My claim went real well. The contractor came out the first time and found that the issue was a circuit board and possibly something else that was connected with it, but they had to order the part. It took about two weeks to get the part back. They came out the second time and he replaced the circuit board. Once he put the circuit board back in, he said the other part didn't look right and it didn't sound right, so he replaced that other part as well. He did a wonderful job. He was a really, really nice person. He put his boots on before he walked in the house and cleaned up after himself. The clean-up was good. I’m glad I had the ability to have this done for not as much as it could’ve cost me.
I always bought my appliance through Sears and I always got the warranty because I swore that it was always worthwhile. You may not use it, but it only takes once, and this was one of these cases. I like that you can call American Home Shield up and they get somebody on it right away, and they’ll give you a call and say when they're coming out. With everything that’s going on nowadays, they really work quickly. I don’t mind making that payment every single month. I’m very satisfied.

Everything went well with our claim and the technician was very professional. But the icemaker is not working properly, so I was gonna call American Home Shield today to find out how we could get the technician back out. The icemaker has started making ice again, but it’s making one block of ice, instead of normal drops of ice.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. If your issue is unresolved, please contact us for assistance. Have a great week.

The water heater was leaking and the guy from J.F. Whitlow came in and took a look at it. The tech was good. He determined that it had to be replaced because the tank was leaking. American Home Shield went out and bought the replacement and delivered it to J.F. Whitlow. They performed the replacement and everything is fine. From the time that I called in the claim to when everything was resolved, it took about 12 days.

I had a leak under my kitchen sink and it was associated with the kitchen faucet. I went online and set up the claim with American Home Shield. Instantly, I got the number of Ray Stovall Plumbing. I called them because of the current situation with everybody and the pandemic, trying to schedule them now. I believe when we initially scheduled it, I may have been working still in the office. Now, I've been home working. They had been backed up a little bit. I talked with their scheduler and she assured me that they would come out on that Friday that I requested. I work Monday through Thursday and I can't stick around for four hours waiting for somebody to show up. They came out on Friday, did the initial repair and said, "We've got the leak stopped but we need some replacement parts. Just call us when they came in." They worked with the manufacturer to make the necessary repair and had ordered a few miscellaneous parts from Kohler.
When the parts showed up, I called and said, "Just come whenever you can 'cause I'm working from home." It worked out pretty good. They replaced the hose and something else. I'm not sure if it was the valve body, but they ordered the supply of parts based on the manufacturer's recommendations, came out here and fixed it.
American Home Shield did a great job. Their contractor was really upfront with me, and they didn't spend a whole lot of time here in excess. They weren't chatty while working. They were very respectful of my time, and they were safe. They came in with their gloves and shoe covers on. They've been doing it probably for a while, I guess. They knew exactly what needed to be done and I was pretty satisfied with these guys. I'm ready to make another work for AHS, for an electrician. I've got a power problem here that I can't get resolved. I'm gonna set it up with them probably today or tomorrow.
I've worked with Sears. They sent a contractor to fix one of the water valves on the bathtub, and they were less than ethical. They charged me a whole bunch of money. What happened was, I was flushing my bathtub and when I opened up the valve, it stuck. When I went to close the valve, it was very hard, then it broke. It was nothing that anybody would have done normally to try to shut the water off, and so I explained that to the tech. He wrote up what they needed to do, but then he turned around and told Sears that I was destructive. I will never let that contractor come to my house ever again. When I did a name search for the contractor, they had a poor reputation. A lot of people were very dissatisfied with them. I told Sears either they'd make it right or I'm gonna go find somebody else. So here I am with AHS.
Rudolph,
Thanks for providing that feedback. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

For a plumbing Issue I had, I called American Home Shield and Econo-Rooter was sent out. They were the best. Their guy was very professional and he knew exactly what he was doing. We've had American Home Shield for a long time and I only wish their prices were a little bit more competitive.

We submitted a claim online. Perhaps due to staffing and illnesses, it was about a week that we waited. 2 Sons Plumbing was very thorough and very helpful. We had two leaky sink faucets and the plumber guy determined that they were not fixable so then they replaced them. Scheduling was different because of the stay at home orders. But they were very professional, did a great job and got everything fixed. It was really nice that they did well. We’re back up to normal.
Jeff,
I am happy to hear that we were able to resolve your claim. Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. Please let us know if you need assistance in regards to your warranty.

The AC went out in my home. I called American Home Shield to ask how long to get a technician out. The reply was 24-72 hours. I stated that I couldn't wait that long as I had a quadriplegic living in my home. The woman went silent. I asked her if she knew what a quadriplegic was. She said no. I explained that a person who is a quadriplegic was unable to move from the neck down and that he couldn't go for 24 to 72 hours without AC due to his condition. I asked if there was any contingency for such an emergency situation. She said I could submit my order and if after 24 hours I didn't hear from anyone I could call my own HVAC and that they would reimburse money spent less the $75. I responded that I couldn't wait 24 hours because I had a disabled person in my home. Again. Silence. Then she said that I had to submit my request on line.
I asked if there was any way to get someone out faster than 24 hours. She responded that I would have to wait 24 hours. I honestly don't think she understood the concept of "disabled" or "quadriplegic." I told her she had been of no help and that I was hanging up. As this was my first experience with American Home Shield, I will not be thinking of them first when I need a call out.

This is going to be the worst decision that you ever make with your home if you pick them. They have absolutely zero empathy. I spent 3 months with them in the heat of the summer with a broken A/C unit. I have gone 1 month with a broke faucet plumbing issue. They have no sense of urgency either. They will flat out lie to you on phone calls and you will have voicemails proving what you have been told and it won't matter, they shield you completely from escalating claims to management and tell you they can't email you or call you back. If you choose them customer service experience will be absolutely terrible.
We do apologize for the inconvenience. We will take this into consideration and would love to speak with you on behalf of this request and come to a resolve. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

To date I have given AHS $2629.02. I have received contractors who are not satisfactorily fixing the appliance problems that have occurred. Each time something breaks, I have waited months before getting it fixed. In the case of my dryer (I was without a working dryer for more than 3 months during the winter) it was "fixed" a month ago and stopped working again the other day. We decided to just cancel our service with AHS and go buy a new one rather than wait through these shenanigans again.
Our dishwasher was broken for around 2 months (they sent 3 separate contracting services out to try and fix it) before they broke down and paid for another one. They "fixed" my gas oven and then on Super Bowl Sunday, when we turned it on for the first time IT CAUGHT ON FIRE! Also, several people have come out to "fix" my freezer and it is also not working again after a few weeks of working. All my freezer food is lost for a second time. I will never purchase home appliance insurance again. This was such an expensive headache.
Besides all the extra labor (hand drying clothes, hand washing dishes, laundromats, throwing wasted unfrozen food away, repurchasing more food for freezer and throwing that away when the freezer broke again, and hours wasted on the phone with customer service in the Philippines) and money paid to AHS ($2629.02), I have spent around $150 on laundromats, $800 on lost food from my freezer, and $250 to buy a new dryer, $30 dumpster fees, $80 labor delivering new dryer and disposing of old dryer. Total $3939 and a LOT of hassle. Please ensure my account with you is cancelled. I'm copying this letter to the Better Business Bureau.
I certainly hate to hear that we did not provide the expected service. You have had several issue with us here at AHS & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback as we hope to improve processes for a better customer experience. Have a great week.

The microwave kept blowing out, and it kept breaking the circuit. The electric people came out and the tech checked everything. He showed me a different way on how to prove it was the microwave so a microwave guy came out and he fixed it and it’s working ever since. The guy who came was good. He was a little chatty, but it’s okay. He was friendly and professional although I think you have to know your customer. If they don’t wanna be bothered, then don’t bother them.
For me to have a problem with a microwave that is brand-new is odd. He said like it was something inside that had broke. But I think this microwave was just replaced not even a little over a year ago. I feel like they should credit me back a service fee because it is the same electrical issue and same microwave. Even though they were years apart, my original microwave at my house had a service call, and the warranty company replaced it, and I was able to pay for the upgrade. But an electrical guy came out before that happened. That was two service fees and then I just did it again with an electrical guy and a microwave again.
Sometimes, people just come out and look at the surface. They test everything, and it could be something internal. So, if that happens again, I'm going to fight with that to let them know I need a senior electrician to look internally at the problem. It shouldn’t have happened within less than two years’ time. I could see if I was doing something really damaging to it like we’re just using it regular everyday use.
Normally I call for my claims. Sometimes I don’t like to do things online because sometimes they just send you to whatever company. If another company has already been out to my house, I like to keep the same people, if possible. It seems like ever since the virus, everything in the house has been breaking. I still pay for my home warranty, so everything is still good.

I never like to have air conditioning issues. It’s never good. When I had one, American Home Shield sent out Myers Comfort Specialists of Birmingham and that went fine. They did a good job. They were on time on the work they were gonna do. They were thorough and professional. I was very satisfied with Myers and how it turned out. I have an annual maintenance agreement for all my various appliances and things. And one reason I went to Myers, initially, was because I knew that they were associated with AHS as far as being one of their approved contractors. If there's a problem, it would be very easy to work on getting it fixed. But I was very satisfied with what they did.

The claim regarding our plumbing issue was absolutely amazing. When we did it, we got a call from Budget and they said they were totally booked through Friday. Within 30 minutes later, a lady called me back and said a guy was on his way. I told her I thought they were booked. She said, “We were, but you were so nice and you didn’t complain. You didn’t make it sound like it was the end of the world. I’m gonna send him on his way home.” The guy came by and he was as pleasant as the day is long. He totally kept social distancing and had the issue fixed in no time. It was really sweet and I most appreciated it. My hat is off to them.
On a different claim for the heater, the guy from the heating place came out and said we needed a new part. He also said, “A lady will call you within half an hour to two hours. And then we’ll come back. There’s not gonna be any additional charge or anything, and we’ll put the part in.” It was pretty cold at that time. This was a week ago or so and we didn’t hear anything. I called the next day and told them I didn’t know if I missed a call from them. She said they’ve ordered the part and it’s gonna be sent to my house. My only little gripe is that they should’ve called me back to let me know that because I was thinking they were blowing me off when really, they’ve ordered the part. Communication is really important. But other than that, everything is great with AHS.

I have been with American Home Shield for approximately 10 years. They do what they tell me that they will do, and their contractors have been good. There had been a couple of times, however, where we had a little bit of miscommunication or problem in scheduling. One time, our conditioner went out and it was extremely hot in the summer. The contractor they contracted with was closed for three or four days. And then it was a weekend, and there was a holiday the Monday after it, so it took several days to get our unit fixed. Still, for the most part, AHS has been good.

My spring broke on my garage. I called AHS because we just recently purchased this home and we had a home warranty. They told me that the garage door spring was under the insurance. They called me back and then they said they would have somebody out to my house 11:00 and 3:00 on Monday. The guy called me back and said he was sitting in front of the part store and the part store wasn't open but came out before 3:00. He communicated with me the whole time, very knowledgeable, and respectful.
Because only one spring was broken, I asked if there was a way to replace the other spring because I wanted to have it fixed properly. He replaced the other spring for me, I paid him and the job was done very quickly, efficiently and I really appreciated him. He did an awesome job. He kept his 6-foot distance, he answered all my questions, and replaced both springs very promptly, and even placed them in my garbage can so I didn't have to touch them. It was great.
We purchased this home on February 13th and it came with the home package. And the house is a little bit older but it has a lot of add-ons and stuff. We were very happy with the service. It's, a two-year contract so if we have anything else that goes wrong. The $75 for the deductible is fine and to have the other spring replaced at the same time so I didn't have to pay another deductible if it broke, I was happy with that.

I have had American Home Shield for 20 years already, and the process used to be easy and a lot cheaper. Nowadays, it is hard. It can take a few hours to call them. What they want you to do is email or buy whatever online, and then you cannot talk about who it is they are going to send. Not all of them are good too. You definitely cannot pick them because some things they only have one for. I called in my pool less than a month ago, and they happen to have two. I have had one guy that I refused to have out here -- his idea of fixing a leaky busted pipe was to put tape around it, so I did not want them.
When I started, the price was 25. Now, it is 75, but that happens and I'm not even upset about that. I'm upset that it is hard to have a conversation anymore. My mother, who is 88, does not do emails nor text. I do not know how to text myself. You call and you can do this and that, but they won't accept it. So they are hard to deal with. If I can never get through to them after a few hours, and we do things okay, then most of the vendors they have are good service. Overall, I like AHS's service, but their customer service is not very good anymore -- it is like everything else in the world these days. It sucks that you cannot get through.

They were pretty courteous and super nice and they assessed what the problem was pretty quickly. The tech looked at the faucet and knew exactly what the problem was. Everything is great as of today. I feel pretty good about Home Shield. That was my first claim and I was pretty happy with the response and the quickness of getting it resolved.

My last two claims with AHS went well, but the first one did not go too well. The contractors that came the last few times were great. They were much more professional than the first one that came. I submitted my first claim over the phone, and the last two I did online, which was easier. According to the website, I would be called, but after a couple of days, I'm thought that there was a miscommunication. When I looked at a different e-mail, it said I needed to call. There needs to be some clarity there.

We had a leaky valve in our hot water heater and I made a claim with American Home Shield through the main contact for the home warranty which was like our area contact. I just texted. The rep was no longer working but she helped me even though she was done. I was then able to get ahold of the person that took her spot and he gave me all the information. He also gave me a number for me to call the next time. The next day, someone from C & P Plumbing came out. He was very pleasant and he knew what the problem was right away. He fixed it and was in and out pretty quickly. So far, we haven't had any other issues. Everything is good.
We didn’t have as good an experience when we were having our refrigerator work done. The third company was the one that fixed it. My husband knew what was wrong with it but the other two people didn’t. We had a little bit of issue there. The last guy who fixed it was probably the best we’ve had. This is our second year with American Home Shield. We bought our house in 2007. Things start to go and two years ago, we decided we had better get a home warranty. With our water heater claim, I was told something to the effect that AHS won’t be replacing the hot water heater. They have to fix whatever is wrong with it. We realize that if AHS can fix it then that's great. If the part wasn’t available or if it was beyond fixing, then we would probably get a new hot water heater. We were fine with that.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The ice machine and my refrigerator have been out since November. Dixon Appliance of Nela came back-and-forth but they couldn’t fix it. Then they charged me again to come out. I tried to tell them they still hadn’t fixed the problem but I didn’t wanna argue for $125 so I paid. The refrigerator had been on and off and I don’t trust it. I’ll get up one morning and it could be out. It’s lucky that I have a big house and I got lots of refrigerators. I’d have to move all my food out into my laundry room fridge. It’s a drink fridge but at least it’s something.
Now, this is going to half of April. It takes American Home Shield forever to fix something. Right now, my dishwasher is out but I haven’t bothered calling American Home Shield yet. It is a nightmare. If something breaks down, I know it’s not gonna get fixed any day soon. Even now, if I call American Home Shield, they would say I have two parts on order. I have yet to see those two parts though. But finally, this guy came and he said I needed to get a new refrigerator because they had changed every part possible. So now, we’ve got the new one and American Home Shield paid for it. It’s not Monogram but that’s okay. I needed to get this problem solved. I will also say that the Monogram refrigerator hasn’t gone out in the last three weeks.
However, the worst part is that American Home Shield had two different companies come out for the refrigerator and they would do different things. They should just dispatch one company so then they know what’s going on. That was the downfall. From now on, I’m gonna request a certain company. I prefer one company because they do a better job than the other.
The service is so bad. American Home Shield wouldn’t fix my oven door. It wouldn’t close and when the contractor came, they didn’t change the door. They changed the hardware. The door stayed open and it took me 45 minutes to get to 300 degrees. Finally, I got sick of it. I told my husband to buy me a new one because I could do it anymore. To hell with American Home Shield. I’ve been in this house for 15 years. It’s been 15 years and they haven’t fixed it. They weren’t going to do it. I don’t know how many times I’ve dispatched contractors and paid the $125. I understand I have to do that. That’s not a problem. But the problem was never fixed and I finally got tired of it. It was very frustrating.
Saroj,

I know a lot about appliances and this house is high-end and grossly overapplianced. I've been happy with the American Home Shield coverage. It's generally easy stuff. The fellow from Sears came at the very beginning of the window, which was only a day or two after I filed the claim. He finished all the work in a little bit over half an hour, and the appliance works fine.
I recently had a claim with a range where two different guys came and looked at something. One of them even followed up a little bit but they've never really tried to fix it. I gave up and just had an independent guy come and take care of it. It really wasn't something that was technical. I know they just wanted to order a part. All I wanted to fix was the light but I think they wanted a technical part number from Thermador that they could just order. It was just a little transformer the size of a 9-volt battery and I could have done it myself. It wasn't a particularly difficult thing and it wasn't an expensive part. They weren't able to see it through at all. That happens from time to time, probably a third of the time. They would make the incorrect claim, say it needs to be replaced which often isn't true. They'll say something like they can't fix it or they'll be like, "I don't know what's the model number."
There are a few brands where I just know better than to call any home warranty company about, unless for sure the thing can be repaired, or I'll just go to the factory guy. I accept that that's a limitation of a home warranty contract. If I wanted to get one of our Miele dishwashers fixed, generally, I wouldn't even call AHS about it unless the Miele tech comes and goes, "You need a new one." Then I would call them. And if it really needs to be replaced, then you negotiate the amount, whatever it is. We had one of those recently and that went acceptably well. It didn't cover the full cost of replacing the thing by a mile, but it was consistent with what the contract is.
I think all of these companies like American Home Shield were trained to say no a few times. But AHS is the least worse compared to their competition. I had a claim that took six months. It was absolutely black and white that they had to cover it. In fact, I came to American Home Shield after that. The one little squabble I had with them was resolved in under an hour. We fought over whether they had to buy a new fridge, which like I said, they're trained to do that. But it didn't take weeks, months, or even days, so fair enough.
And once you're in that process, it works like, "You can either have the money or we'll send you this unit." From that point, it's very straightforward and much easier than anybody else, so I give them some credit there. But they always wanna have a fight before buying me a new thing. They try to talk you into how it isn't something that's covered when it is something that's covered. Good policies have limitations, so do the repair guys. I think a lot of that looks like within the price. For $1,000 a year, they're not gonna buy me a $8,000 refrigerator. In worse case, you get maybe 3,000 out of it. You just have to decide if the premium is okay, taking that into account.
Another thing is plumbing where I know is something pretty specialized. I don't want the cheapest monkey from Albania or whatever working on it. I maybe can tell the difference between what anyone could do and what maybe a specialist needs to do. I really wouldn't let a thing like that escalate into a fight with the warranty company 'cause I want it repaired correctly.
I get a little unhappy when the guy can't reach in for a screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters to fix a piece of transformer. It's irritating. I had one guy that I never even heard from again. AHS reassigned it. I didn't have to complain that the guy didn't work on it. They said, "We have a different tech coming." That guy at least followed up by phone a couple of times saying, "I'm still looking for your part." He's like, "I give up. I don't know where your part is." I'm like, "It's just a little 12-volt transformer for God's sake.” That's why I called the guy I know and he came, installed it for me. The repair was like 100 bucks.
The part I paid was 75. But the thing is that I actually put in for two different things so I ended up getting a $1,100 settlement on our little undercounter refrigerator at the same time. It wasn't like, "You really need to give me back the 75 bucks. You guys failed." It might have come to that but in this case, I didn't pay a separate fee for that. I wasn't stunned that they weren't willing to really wrench on the thing. And they didn't make a mess or break anything. I'm sort of okay with it. I didn't die of shock that it went down like that.
Also, American Home Shield could make the renewal process more graceful. I understand that you get a new contract number every year. It's a lot of steps to register if you're gonna use the online services. Your account essentially disappears at the end of the year when the contract rolls over. You have to reinitiate everything over again. They should make it more graceful to roll over at least the online account.
My main thing is around renewal time, it gets much more difficult to use the contract. It's like that you're essentially kicked out of the system when the one contract rolls off. You get an entirely new contract. My email address and all that doesn't change. A lot of my account stuff is still there, but it's still a pain. It should just reflect that you had one contract. The contract number should just change rather than the whole login. It's so annoying when all the contract details are completely wiped out of the account. Something’s happening that's urgent enough for you to wanna get it fixed, then you're like, "What do you mean there's no contract associated to your login?" It's a high blood pressure sort of thing.
Also, the contractors disappear out of your online account which is jarring every time that happens. And we go long periods without using it. We pay every year but I've definitely gone multiple years, about eight or nine, and probably five of those I didn't have any claims for anything. But I keep AHS warranty around. The reason we have that is for like a $10,000 air conditioner quits completely or a water heater, fridge, things like that.
Nicholas,

American Home Shield was the warranty that came with the house. We were pleased with it in the first year so we decided to keep it in the second year. I have loved all my contractors so far. We've had a couple of plumbing issues, and the guys that come out to do the plumbing stuff has been the same company, and they're from our town. They're super fast and super responsive. We've had some air conditioning and heating work done and the same company that came out before did that also. They were really good about getting out and getting the parts in faster than what they thought and getting them put in.
The only issue I have is the current contractor that is working on the appliances. Two weeks ago, my dishwasher and dryer went out on the same day, and that was the first time I ever had to contact the contractor before they could contact me. They didn't give me a set time to come. They said they would be out that way next Tuesday, but it might be Monday or Saturday. Then they texted me or called me an hour before they showed up that Saturday.
I've been trying to communicate about getting the parts in to fix my dryer. I get that things could be slower right now, which is fine. It's just I would prefer it to be communicated because I reached out to them and they told me that they'd let me know when the parts would come in. They said it would take five to seven days, and then I asked if there is a way they could track the package so I could estimate and they didn't answer. I had to call AHS to contact them to get them to answer me back. That was a little frustrating. I have five people and I can't do laundry. It's really difficult.

I told them it wasn't on my account but it's on my credit card. I connected with my salesperson and emailed him asking if he got to the bottom of the issue with the $25.82. Somebody needs to get back to me on this issue. My salesperson still hasn't come back to me on resolving it.
More recently, our thermostat wasn't connecting with our air handler. We would push it to adjust the temperature but it wouldn't work. It wouldn't stop nor start up. I’ve been really pleased with American Home Shield but one thing is that I know they contract with certain companies. And one time, a company came out and gave me a diagnosis of what the problem was. It was something that I was gonna have to manage on my own because it wasn’t covered, which was fine. Then, I had another problem with a different situation and Home Shield sent out another company. When they came, it ended up connected to my previous problem and they gave me a different resolution. That was kinda confusing because one said I needed this and one said I needed that. They were both gonna be costly and I didn’t know how to resolve that.

I called for my washing machine. My wife was home when the first company came out and they didn’t give her a business card. The guy looked at the washing machine for five minutes, didn’t turn it on, didn’t do diagnostic, and told her that I needed to unhook the washing machine and leave it out the curb so he could pick it up, and he didn’t give her any information. I told my wife that we ain’t doing that. After I complained and complained to Home Shield, the second company came out and they were really nice. They looked at my washer, said what was wrong, went and got parts, tried to fix it and couldn’t fix it, so then Home Shield replaced it.
Now, another company came to bring it and install it. They had no mask or gloves. They tried to shake my wife’s hand and she doesn't shake hands. Then, they hooked up the washing machine and told us to let it run, and once it'd be done running, then we could do a load. The first time with no clothes in it, it didn’t shake. Once my wife put clothes in there, and it was supposed to be a brand new unit, it shook even worse than my old machine that was broken.
It seems like no matter what anybody they send out, the contractors don’t do what they’re supposed to do. I’m paying the service for each month and then I had to pay 100 bucks for them to come out. What’s the use of even calling them if they’re just gonna keep sending out crappy workers? It’s very frustrating. Like me, I’m a contractor and I don’t do appliances. I’m not gonna tell someone I do appliances and go out there and try to mess with somebody’s things and not be able to do it. Also, when I go to houses, I wear my mask and gloves. It aggravates me that they’re sending people that don’t take anything seriously. No one cares and no one wants to listen.

When I have a claim, I call up American Home Shield and tell them what the problem is. They charge me $100 immediately when I call them up. For a claim regarding my pool, they got in touch with ABNation. ABNation called me and made an appointment for the service for the following day or the day after. I know ABNation as I’ve had them here twice. Initially, the problem had to do with a piece on the filter that was broken. When you put the filter on, the pool would lose water because there was a piece on the filter. That piece had to be changed and ABNation did that.
I only used American Home Shield for the pool. The guy usually comes in a day. If it was something that I needed to be done really quickly and it took time, that would be a problem. But that hasn’t been the case. Also, AHS charges $100 every time you call to have somebody come and fix something. They called ABNation once for something that had to do with the pool but they weren’t the right company to do it. That still cost me $100. AHS sent the right company and it cost me another $100. They don’t fix actual leaks that are a part of the pool. If the pool is broken, they’ll fix leaks that are because of the mechanic of the pool like the filter.

I bought the gas stove from a discount store in July and on the 12th of August, I reported that both the burners were doing the ignition sound, even when the flame came on. Thor Appliance came out and they fixed it. But a few days later, the problem started again. I had to fly out to India but when I came back, it was doing the same thing. I reported it again and they came. They said they fixed the nose clips but within three days, it was doing the same thing again.
I reported it and they said I had to pay them $240 for the nose clips and that I was out of the warranty. They said I only had a 90-day warranty because I bought it from a discount place. I told them that in the first place, the problem which I reported never got fixed. They were pretty much doing a very Mickey Mouse job that it was coming up again and again. If the burner needed to be replaced, they should do that because it was reported within the 90-day warranty. But they refused. They told me that the manufacturer will send the parts, but I have to get my own technicians.
I called American Home Shield. I had three people come in from different companies and they couldn’t figure it out. I was very disappointed. One of them said he was not gonna touch it because it was within the manufacturer’s warranty. I showed him the receipt where it says it's a 90-day warranty. He showed me the website and then he tried to talk to those people and they said the same thing, but he said he was not gonna touch it because it was under the manufacturer’s warranty.
I told the manufacturer to ship me the parts and I would ask American Home Shield to send the technician. And they did exactly that. They sent me a burner and the nose clips. When the last technician came in, he said he would replace the burners first and see what happens. The problem got fixed. He knew what he was doing, and within 15 minutes, he was out. So after a thread of 50 emails, my problem got solved. The stove is working fine now. Overall, American Home Shield was good enough because they kept sending me different people until my problem was fixed.

Our refrigerator service started awfully horrible. Valleywide came out three different times for my refrigerator a couple of years ago but they never got it fixed. It was frozen and I ended up fixing it with a hairdryer. They're worthless and I'll never have them again. Then I asked for a second opinion and the guy came out and got a part ordered.
When they got there a week ago to install it, there was a kit that didn't come with it and it had a dent. So we called and talked to a lady. I have the voice mail that it would be fixed and repaired. They had ordered a new one in. But we have not heard anything back from them. They said it'd be 7 to 10 days for them to order the part and get it in. They ask me to order stuff. I gave them my model number and I figured they should have gone to do that because they know what I needed. The part should be here. I was ready to dump Home Shield 'til we talked to the lady. She came to the rescue and had everything all figured out. She kept me being an AHS subscriber. But the job's not finished.

John Hudgins Plumbing came out to our home. He came twice. First of all, I had asked them to address a leaky faucet out in the back. And he checked that, and there was nothing wrong with it. It just needed to be screwed tighter. But I was afraid to touch it for fear I’d break something. But I also had asked to have him check the toilet that was wobbling on the floor and the shower. When my husband would be taking a shower and have the temperature of the water just right, it would click out on him.
The plumber said he would have to come back. That shower needed a part. So then, he came back Monday because he got the part. And he fixed the toilet. And then, in this place where we live, there are eight families that are on that one water. We have to turn the water off to the whole bunch of us. So, very quickly, we turned off the water and installed that thing. And the people weren’t without water for more than 30 minutes, so he did an excellent job. I’m a big fan of AHS. I sold real estate for about 35 years in St. Louis and I sold an awful lot of AHS policies.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a very long time now so it saved me a lot of money. I had a problem with a circuit board on a stove. It wound up being a problem with the circuit board and the manufacturer no longer made that circuit board so I wound up getting a new stove. I never knew how many years of warranty I would’ve needed to save up to get a $1,700 stove. Recently, my toilet was leaking. I needed a new flapper valve where the tank was attached. The guy who came out did a new supply line from under the house. He answered all my questions and he was great.
Sometimes, they may not have anybody in their arsenal to call on about a claim like my tankless water heater that is electric. If only they have somebody that could cover the newer, more modern appliances, that would be good because people are having to look into the issue and do some research before they could work on my stuff. But they have come to rescue many times when I didn’t have large amounts of money to spend on a repair. I submitted my claim online and then I got a tentative appointment date. They let me know that the service person would contact me to confirm, which they did. The tech was there Saturday morning. The cover of the fan broke and it took about two weeks to get the part and then he came and he fixed it. It was a painless procedure.

It was gonna be a whole ordeal and I was gonna take four or five days to get it replaced, so I opted for a buyout option. I sent American Home Shield what they needed, the receipt, and did that all the same day. I did it myself.

The first claim I had was to rekey our locks when we first moved into our home. The second time was that something went out on the stove. Then recently, we had a toilet issue. When flushing the toilet in the hallway, it continued to run. Then when flushing the toilet in the master bedroom, the tank wasn’t filling back up with water. Innovative Plumbing Solutions came out and they were great. Overall, I would recommend everyone who purchased a house to get the home warranty, because when things break down, you can call, pay the deductible, and it’s an easy fix. You’re not stressed out and worried about if you have the money to fix the things that break down.

American Home Shield was the most publicized, most recognizable and credible organization at the time I selected them about three years ago. I generally call to submit a claim because I like to hear if I can get all the information at one time. I can get an acknowledgment of the call and timelines when I should expect things to start happening. That way, I don't have to wait for AHS to call me back or text me. I have a framework that I can work within. Now, when they send a text and stuff, it just confirms what I already know even if I don't see it right away.
The response time has been pretty good for me. The actual people that AHS sent out, except with one exception, had been professional, knowledgeable, and repaired the situation. I have the same company as some of my family members and there’s such a discrepancy in the upfront price. That certainly had made me consider calling around to see what else was out there. There are other companies out there and all the people who have some of these seem to be quite satisfied with the service that they’ve received.

When I had a claim on a dishwasher, the guys came right out and they wore gloves. They were clean. They assessed the deal, came back, put the part in, took their mess with them, and it was perfect. They were also the last ones that came for my washer. But the first experience with the washer was not a good one. When the first person came out here, he replaced the transmission and clutch. But no sooner than he drove out of the driveway, I turned it on and it sounded like Boeing 747 taking off. It vibrated all the way out to the door. I called back immediately and complained. The man left this giant grease-leaking part in my laundry room. He left grease prints all over my wall, my washer and the dryer. He didn't clean up his mess. I told American Home Shield to not send that man back. I told them to send somebody else in that company, but they sent him back anyway two more times until I finally had a fit.
The next thing I know, I get an email from Home Shield saying, “We’re gonna let you get another one.” So I found a better deal somewhere and it’s gonna be delivered on Saturday. But I haven't copied the receipt to send in to get reimbursement for it. But it didn't sit well with me that after all this time, they are replacing it, even though it’s gonna cost me money because I spent a little bit more to get something I think is more comparable with my previous washer.
I was also left on hold at one experience. I had to call there and the girl said, “Let me go check and I’ll get right back to you.” She left me on hold for 39 minutes. I hung up and called back, and the woman said that there was a shutdown in the computer system. I told her that she could’ve come back and told me that and told me to call back but she didn't.
Thank you for contacting us regarding this. We understand the hassle regarding back and forth with the washer. We would be delighted to speak with you regarding this. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I am very dissatisfied with the service I have received from American Home Shield's Billing/Cancellation department. Their customer service is below par in more ways than I can describe. I have been a customer since 2013 and have no issues with the way they handled service calls I had over the years. Due to COVID-19 and financial situations, I have had to make choices in my finances so needed to cancel this policy. When I called to cancel, it was very difficult to understand the representative from American Home Shield. Once she told me she was transferring me to the cancellation department, I was on hold for over 30 minutes waiting for them to answer.
Once the cancellation department answered, the person that answered the phone was less than helpful, and sounded half asleep. Once he took my cancellation, he told me I would receive an email confirming the cancellation and nothing was owed. I did receive that email with an effective date of 4/1/2020 and $0.00 owed. On 4/2/2020 my regular premium was taken out of my account, to which I called and asked for a refund as I canceled my policy. They issued the refund promptly.
Today, 4/7/2020 they took out ANOTHER premium payment. I called and was on the phone with them for over an hour. The initial representative was impossible to understand and transferred me again to the cancellation department. They never answered, this went on for a long time. IN the end, I am totally unhappy with this company, where after 7 years of being a loyal customer, now will give them a very poor review. I will not recommend them to anyone I come into contact with. In the event I wish to purchase a home warranty for my home, I will not use American Home Shield. Poor poor customer service and in this day and time, so sad.
We do apologize for the back and forth. We have read over your complaint and we are taking into consideration this matter. We show that our cancellation department are in the process of handling this and making sure this is cancelled and reimbursed properly. Thank you for contacting us in this matter and making us aware.

I had a problem with my air. I called American Home Shield, who I pay in excess of $65.00 monthly. They said they would send a contractor out and took the $75.00 service cost. When the man from Southern Heating and Air came, he checked my unit, found no Freon in it, said there was a leak somewhere and said he would return with equipment to evaluate where the leak was coming from. Two days later, I received a call from American Home Shield stating that the contractor informed them that there was a leak and that I would need to pay in excess of $600.00 to have him put in the Freon. She said that AHS only paid $10.00 per pound for Freon, and that the contractor was charging $100.00 per pound.
Why is it that AHS allows these contractors to charge their (AHS) customers prices that are downright unreasonable? If at the time they solicited the contractor and learned the cost of Freon they were charging, why not get another contractor for their customers, or at the very least meet the customer halfway on the price of the Freon?
I do not think this is fair to the consumer and wonder why they are taking advantage of us in this way. We are senior citizens trying as best we can to live day by day. If this is how AHS had determined they will treat their customers, it is truly a big disappointment to us. What are we to do about our air? How do we make it through the summer? The amount is too great for us to bear. If we chose another contractor, we are out the $75.00 service fee. However, we are completely unsatisfied with the current contractor.
We do apologize for the inconvenience, and it is not our intent to cause such a hassle. We would love to speak with you on this matter. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further in this matter regarding the HVAC.

It looks like the fan capacitor is burnt out and that even like a fuse blew out, too. So, the contractor that AHS sent came quickly, analyzed, diagnosed the issue and replaced the capacitor. It was pretty quick and really good. The only difficulty I found was that I was not able to request a service through the online account. I tried multiple times, logged out and logged into the account and tried to do an online request and it didn’t work. Previously, I had done it online and it was pretty easy. I've been a customer of Home Shield for 20 years and I've had six to eight accounts with them over the years. One time, somebody came out and I didn’t like the service. I complained and they didn’t do anything about it. They came out a couple of times and they eventually got it right. I left for seven months. I left in February and I came back in September. Also, I like Home Shield, but they went from $75 a visit to $100 and I didn’t like that big jump in price.
My heating stopped so I submitted a claim over the phone. The reps are pretty good when I can get through but it's a long wait. I called the claim in on a Friday and Express Comfort came out on Monday. They were polite and wore booties and masks. They replaced some kind of sensor in the heater. The only thing I didn’t like is that the tech said the filter needed changing but that’s not something they provided. I wish that was something that they could have done.

We had a prior warranty company, and we were paying probably about $300 less a year for them. But when the two years old it died, it cost me over $2,000 with the old warranty company to get that repaired so we immediately started shopping for a new warranty company and spoke with American Home Shield. I explained what we had just gone through, and they told us how much it would’ve cost with them and so we switched.
I filed a claim with AHS for our downstairs AC unit. It was not working. When I called for the service to come out, everything was automated. They told me someone will respond within 24 to 48 hours. And then when she called me back, she told me that the company itself would let me know when the parts were in to finish the job. They ordered the parts on a Wednesday, and they came out to install everything the following Monday.
There was a little bit of confusion at first. They had to come out three times to fix it. The first guy who came out thought it was one thing, and then he tried that fix and it didn’t actually fix the problem. And then he called for a senior tech, and he came out and he thought it was the same thing the original guy thought it was. So, he tried to do something slightly different but along the same lines, and it still didn’t work. So then, he figured out it was something else, ordered the part, and then came out the third time and actually fixed it. In the middle of that, AHS and I had a little bit of a back and forth conversation about some stuff. But in the end, they resolved it the way it needed to be resolved.

We filed a claim and the contractor was supposed to contact us within 24 hours. They were very quick about it. The contractor was very professional, personable and clear. He came in, did his work, kept within social distancing and wore a mask which was really good. Since we were having to work, he was very sensitive to what we were doing in the house at the time. After he took his time diagnosing the situation, he came back in a terse and lucid manner and explained what the problem was. He said he didn't have the replacement parts to do this, had to order them and that he would be back in about a week.
He got the material several days later. He came back and did the work. He was in and out of here after he checked the machine. He knew what he was doing and this was probably the best experience that we've had with American Home Shield. We were with 2-10 and we moved to AHS. In many ways, it's been a very big rollercoaster ride with them as a warranty company. We've had other problems with a larger situation with our central air setup and the company they chose for that was not good. We did not get any satisfaction from AHS. I liked American Home Shield for two reasons. One was, it was said to be the number one provider on the internet. I'm old and gray-headed, and I didn't know if it was true or not, but it was between them and Sears, and I went with AHS. But I'm struggling now because my friend went with Sears and he said that they would replace his central air or heating system completely if they couldn't repair it. And the guy that fixed ours said that AHS would only do so much on it. Still, I'm happy with AHS so far.
I'm an old country boy and when my furnace broke, it was cold. I called AHS on the weekend and they said they couldn't get anybody at that time, but they would see what they could do. I asked if we could get it fixed because we got local people here that would fix it. Now, American Home Shield has the right to send who they wanna send, so they said they were gonna send out a request for us and then the contractor would be getting in touch with us shortly. But the guy sent a text back that said he was out of town and wouldn't be able to come out until Monday.
So, I called American Home Shield back and explained to them that we didn't have any heat and my wife and I are both elderly. But they said they were sorry and that they couldn't just let us call who we wanted to call. They told us that they had to get a provider and that'd be who the provider is in our area. But I told them that he was not available, then the rep put me on hold for 10 minutes. When he got back on there, he said that they couldn't let us get anyone local, but they'd try to find somebody else. He then asked me to hold and I told him that I had been on there for 10 minutes and I could wait 10 more. That was the truth and I wasn't being rude.
Then, after almost another 10 minutes, he got back on and said that they found somebody else. He said that they were we're gonna text them and the contractor would get back with us within 24 hours. But I told him that 24 hours wouldn't help us. We got no heat and we couldn't control that. Then they said that the contractor would send me an email. So, I hang up. But when I checked my email about an hour later, it was the same company. So, I called AHS back and I told them that they didn't do anything. They were still sending me the same guy that couldn't be here until Monday. When I asked again if I could just get someone to fix it, they said I couldn't do that. I didn't like dealing with them and the way they handled things that's why I am leaning to change to Sears. But overall, when the guy came, he was wonderful and I couldn't have handpicked anybody any better.
Still, there should be somewhere in American Home Shield that would say, "Hey, wait a minute. We wanna make sure you have heat in your house. So, we're gonna let you get somebody local to fix it." Also, I had a different company before I went to American Home Shield and if the dishwasher went out but they didn't have anybody in our area, they'd say that we could get it fixed. Then we could pay the bill, have it sent to them, and they'd reimburse us. And they did that really well. The only difference was they had a lot of restrictions on their air conditioning and heating. They would only go up to $2,000 and that was it. I had them for three years until I found out about American Home Shield and I switched. Other than that, when I was on the phone with AHS, I didn't have any wait time and they answered pretty quickly.

Plumbing Repair ASAP came out right away, sooner than expected. The tech had to cut holes in the ceiling around the hot water heater. And where he thought the valve was, he found the joint and the joint just fell apart and another part fell apart. Also, he turned off a valve, replaced the joint, and then replaced that valve or the turn-off valve. Then, he left and told us to watch it for 24 hours just to make sure. The tech was really good and everything was fine, except that we have a lot of water damage in the ceiling.
I’ve been doing nothing but trying to explain to Home Shield how much damage there is in the ceiling and they keep insisting it’s only a little 12-inch by maybe 11-inch area and then another 6x6. I can’t get it through to them that it’s not inches, it’s feet. We have a 7x16 foot area. And the reps kept giving me the runaround and kept giving me the name of a drywall man that does not work for them. Also, I couldn't talk to them because most of them don't speak decent English. If you tell them you can’t understand them, they start talking faster and higher and that makes it all the worst because on a cellphone, it’s really hard to hear them. They gotta talk louder and slower and then they’d be fine. Some of the women weren’t too bad, but some of them were awful. The men especially were terrible. They have terrible phone service.
I just gave up. The ceiling is now being fixed because we couldn’t wait for them anymore. We're paying the drywall man ourselves because we couldn't get any satisfaction from Home Shield. Now, I have a bill and I called specifically the number they said to call if I had questions on it. The rep couldn’t tell me a darn thing except that I owed them $100. I asked who I owed it to and she said she didn’t know and she would have to talk to her supervisor. I still haven’t heard back. That was the other thing. They said they would call back but they never did, I had to call them. The only time they called was with the plumber.
Also, I’m trying to get rekeying and one lady called. She gave me all the information that I have to do. I know they took the $100 for that but I can’t get anybody to come up because of the Corona virus. No one is even answering their phone. The worst part of this whole thing is dealing with Home Shield. I am not happy with them at all and it’s been awful. As soon as I get this rekeying done, I’m done with them.

When the water heater was leaking. I contacted American Home Shield and paid my $75. They sent out Advanced. Advanced looked at the water heater, said that it needed to be replaced, ordered a new one, came back out and installed it a few days later. However, I'm not 100% happy with AHS. They're very costly. They should also pay a little bit better because we still had to pay out more than $400. When you're looking at what you're paying versus what you're getting, sometimes it pays and sometimes it doesn’t. If I had the time to research the competition, I would do it, but I don’t have the time. But all in all, I'm satisfied.

When we bought the house, we received the Home Shield policy from the previous owners and we decided to give it a try and renewed it not too long ago. We’ve used it several times and submitting claims is very easy. We go to the portal and put it in. We were seeing a problem with our dishwasher and a couple of days later, the tech from Fleming Appliance Repair showed up on schedule. There was a piece of silverware wedged into the bottom of the dishwasher and he found it quickly and resolved the issue for us just fine. We’re quite satisfied. Home Shield has always been competent and very timely so far. I was pretty skeptical when I signed up, but so far, they’ve been pretty good.

The first company, Blue Ridge Mountain, saw what the issue was, but when they reported it back, they reported it in a way that was not correct so that I would have to pay them more money. There was a lot of back and forth with them. A&B Plumbing & Home Services, on the other hand, was a lot better. The guy came right out and saw what the issue was. He went back out and called to explain what was happening, and then he fixed it in less than five minutes. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was an easy process. I've, however, had another home warranty company and I liked the pricing of the other one a little better. What they covered was a little bit more, too.

The people who owned this house before us lied to us like crazy during the escrow. And thank God for Home Shield because we’re getting some things fixed. Some things, we have to take to court on. It’s unbelievable, some of the things they lied to us about. And right now, I have workmen out there, putting up a new garage door because it's coming apart. That’s not covered by Home Shield but the garage door opener was. Also, all four septic tanks were full and the previous owners said they had pumped it two years before. Their Realtor also said that it had been pumped two years before but it hasn’t been pumped in probably 10, 12 years.
But the air conditioning guy, when he came out, he checked everything around and he said, “Well, here’s your problem right here. The pump’s burnt out." A whole pump was completely non-functioning. We had him out to do the spring checkup and he said it looked like nobody had come out in a long time. And when he went up into the attic, he found where somebody who is not a professional tried to correct something or do something, and wired something up there, and the wire was burnt in two. He fixed that. He caught that right away.
The home protection guy that we hired to do the inspection said that the HVAC system had some issues, but the seller said, “No, it’s fine.” And we made him pay for Home Shield for us. There are things that of course are not going to be covered, but yay! My experience with the seller is just unreal. And with all this other crisis going on, it’s a bit hard to deal with. But fortunately for us, we have a little extra money. And our Realtor made the sellers pay all of our closing costs so we had that extra money to take care of some of these repairs. But we have to take them to the Texas commission because they lied about the disclosures.
But our every single experience with the repairmen with American Shield have all been fantastic. We had them out for the HVAC, septic, plumbing, electrical, and a guy is coming right now to look at the dishwasher, which the previous homeowners also lied about, to see if they can be repaired and fixed. Every single repairman has just been unbelievably nice. I’m not used to that. We’re from southern California where nobody is nice. And it has been just one really good experience after the other. Every single person treated us like gold and went beyond and above, gave us tips on this and that, all the way from mothballs to keep snakes away, to all kinds of things. And they’ve been really super. In fact, the HVAC guy told us all kinds of things, like what he used to kill the fire ants and what he used for this. It had nothing to do with HVAC, but he was just a good old boy.
We have kept every single one of those gentlemen’s cards, and whether or not we will continue to be covered under Home Shield down the road, we will use those guys because they are so good, so sweet and so nice. I called yesterday morning about the garage door opener, dishwasher and the electrical issue and two of the people were here within a couple hours. It wasn't urgent. But they called up and said, “Hey, we got time right now. Can we come out?” “Sure.” It just blew my mind. I’m used to waiting two or three weeks for a repairman to come to service me, which is one of the reasons why we moved to Texas and got the hell out of California.
The only thing is Home Shield does get busy. But I understand that this Coronavirus just makes the staff late. Sometimes, you have to wait quite a while on the phone. But I have learned when to call and when not to call for service or anything like that. But other than that, they're really great. And to their credit, I’ve always been able to understand them when they talk to me. In California, most of the people that would take phone calls were from foreign countries and they would send people out for the wrong thing. Not here. They send people out for the correct things.

I have no idea how latches work. Action Overhead Door came out. A latch came loose and all the tech had to do was snap it back in and he oiled the rollers. We’ve had some problems where the contractors had to come back, but that’s typical. Some of those things were trial and error. We had an ice maker that we had a problem with last year and the tech came back twice, but he finally got it fixed.
I just wish there were some closer people to our area because it’s always one day a week thing. They can’t work as soon. They were out maybe for a week. That’s the biggest problem we have found. Also, the guy that did the ice maker could barely walk. He had to get down the floor and had all kinds of problems getting up. I’m all for older people doing their jobs and working when they can, but it makes you nervous when somebody gets on the floor and you don’t know if you’re gonna get him up.

AHS sent a furnace company out and they didn't resolve the problem with my heating. They sent another company out and the tech who came said that the other tech should have replaced a certain piece. They replaced that for me and everything is working now. Both of the gentlemen from the second company were very nice and they did a good job. They were able to fix the problem that should have been fixed the first time.
However, someone sent by AHS came to work on our stove but didn't fix it. They didn't put the wiring back together right and so it may have shorted out. I was pissed off because I have to call the contractor sent by AHS within 30 days. A new guy had to come and I had to pay for it. That guy came out and told me that the previous contractor replaced the part but didn't put the wiring back which may have shorted a piece out. The stove works but takes 45 minutes to an hour to heat up. I have two kids and that's not practical. I haven't heard anything back in a week now.

They called and they came out in a day or two. My refrigerator went down and now, I'm gonna be able to get another one. AHS gave me some money towards that. If you don’t have a home warranty, you should invest in one. AHS is an excellent idea and they have been very helpful. But they need to improve on the follow-up call once they close you out like if they're gonna buy another one for you. They should make sure that they follow up after their customer after the service has been done even if it's just a quick followup to ask how things went. But with everything that’s going on, I'd give them a break. I also need to call AHS because they told me they were gonna send out my gift card within two days but I haven’t received it yet.

There are two zones in our hot water heating system, one for downstairs and the other for upstairs. There seemed to be some oil leaking from one of those zone pumps. It is a red device. We submitted the claim over the phone and we spoke to a live person from American Home Shield. The man from Pro Comfort Heating & Cooling came, cleaned up the oil on the floor and checked it out. Nothing seemed to be needing any attention, and he suspected that when somebody was here in the fall, they simply lubricated it so much that a little bit of the oil dribbled out. The man did a good job cleaning up, and he was polite and informative. Everything seems to be fine since he did the repair.

Recently we had toilet leaking in one of my bathrooms and the tech from Lex’s Plumbing came out, found the leak, fixed it. It was a loosened nut in the bolt where the water's held. He also checked out two toilets we have in the house. Our toilets were kind of sluggish when flushing and he said they were just old. The tech was great. He did a thorough job and was really helpful. Generally, the response is so quick that by the time I walk out of the office into the living room, I've got a text saying the contractor will be contacting me for an appointment. Then, a few minutes later, I get another text which is a confirmation of my appointment.
The Sears techs are very professional. They make the appointment and everybody gives me a four-hour period. But they were very good at notifying us when they were on the way. I started my protection with AHS at the beginning of the year. I had to go and renovate the place after my last tenant, so I figured I wasn't going to chance having problems in the future. As a matter of fact, I have two properties and I insured them both. I investigated pretty thoroughly and the providers were all about the same price. But the ratings for American Home Shield were so much higher than the other places. So many people were satisfied with the availability of service people. If there was a claim, it was taken care of properly and quickly. They seemed like a lot better company, which was why I went with them.
When the dishwasher wouldn't drain, I filed the claim online since I was in Pennsylvania and the property was in Florida. I asked pertinent questions to make sure that whoever was going out there knew exactly what the problem was. Sometimes, there are problems and people just go, "This doesn't work. I don't know what's wrong with it." But I knew that it wasn't draining, so it probably needed a pump or a screen with the drainage. The website was to the point and right after I submitted the claim, I got a confirmation email, which said to expect the contractor within two days. My tenant said that the contractor was very professional and made sure that he left the area clean. He fixed the dishwasher very quickly. They were satisfied so, I'm satisfied.

We had called before and reported it and they promised they will send it, but they never did. When the furnace wouldn’t come on, I called it in and Home Shield gave me a expectation of from the time I called to 48 hours. And then, Air First Mechanical called me and said he would be here between 11:00 and 3:00, but he was right here at 11 o’clock.
I couldn’t believe it. That was the first time somebody was able to show up at 11:00. I never had that experience before where somebody automatically showed up right on time. So, I didn’t have to wait all day and I really appreciated that, too. Also, it was excellent service. He went in, diagnosed the problem really fast. He didn’t have the piece with him. They did great. It was something I could’ve done myself, but I needed plumber strength. I learned that buying a big snake at the store, no matter how much it costs, is not as good as a plumber. They can get a huge snake with a machine that forces it through all the clog. A friend of mine recommended a locksmith, so I paid a locksmith to break in the side door on the garage. But I've had the garage door opener fixed several times through the home warranty with AHS, so I was disappointed that I was trapped out again.
Then, I contracted with AHS online to file a claim and their website was user-friendly. I'm older, so for me to understand how to do the online thing, it was easy enough. Then, I was happy that it was followed up by a phone call because I didn't know if I had done it correctly or not. So, I got an actual person to call to say that it was being honored and someone would be out to help me. Then they sent out a tech from Installation Service Inc.. I had used them before, so when AHS suggested them, I was okay with it. But I had mixed feelings because they were the ones who worked on it before and I was wondering if the garage door opener will break down again and I will be stranded again. He said that I would have to basically call back when the pump breaks more, which doesn't make very much sense to me. He repaired the sand filter, which was one of the problems that we called about and the booster pump which is making a really loud noise. He explained it to me that he doesn't want to take advantage of AHS by saying that it's broken but he said in the same token he wants to do right by me. And he told me the company will call me and follow up.
I really enjoyed that tech. He was super nice guy and did great work. However the issue of the pump is back. My thermostat was losing charge and the AC unit was kicking off in order to charge the unit. So, Airtronics had to install a separate charging wire from my AC unit down to the thermostat so that it was not kicking off, and they did that. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is very easy. I've been a customer with them since I owned the home back in 2011. Other than raising my service call fee, everything's been fine. It's provided enough return to justify the cost every year I had. I have a pool. So every year, my pool motor, pool pump motor and cleaning pump motor go out. So the cost of replacing those motors alone is enough to pay for the service. If you have a pool, it's 100% worth it. If it's not, it's sort of hit or miss.

With AHS there’s peace of mind and you have the ability to get your issue repaired without paying the whole amount. They sent out Tompkins for a microwave display. Everything went fast and efficiently. They needed to replace a motherboard and they were very good in their service. The tech was very knowledgeable. He had to wait for a part for about four days, which was not too long.

Then, he came back with the part. Since then, everything has been working great. I also had a claim for a washing machine and that went good.

The contractors that came to fix our AC were very professional. With all this stuff going on with the Coronavirus, they didn’t even have to come inside our home. They did everything through the garage. They just let my husband know when they needed the AC turned on. I also had another claim for my stove and that one went fine too. The contractors fixed my oven. I also had one for my microwave and that was fixed as well. The only thing was that the amount had increased and I didn’t realize that it did. But I’m happy with AHS.

The contractor called and said they wouldn’t be out until Monday, but I pleaded, and the owner of the company called me and they sent someone that lives 45 minutes away. He drove all the way here on a Saturday, took care of my problem, and he was awesome about it. My fee was waived too, because I was out of work because of the virus. Home Shield is always quick about getting stuff fixed and this will be our second year with them.

It was easy to file a claim when the water heater was leaking. I just called Home Shield and they had Dean’s Plumbing & Heating give me a call and set the appointment. Then they were here. We had to get a permit to replace the water heater and they got the permit. They did the work and after that, an inspector came out and inspected it. So the experience was really simple. Dean's was great and the water heater has been perfect since.
Home Shield is great and I tell all my friends that they should get it. As a matter of fact, I just sold one of my houses and the people that bought it got the Home Shield. I think it’s great. I’ve had really a good experience with them when I first got the house in Bishop. I was out of town for about two months because I was at a horse show but my housekeeper came in and took care of my plants. When she walked through, the whole house was flooded. The valve for the water going into the icemaker had broken. I’ve only owned the house for two years so it was all brand-new stuff and Home Shield covered. They had to replace all the laminate flooring almost through the entire house, although this is a small house. But there were no problems at all. So I really have great feelings for them.

A friend mentioned American Home Shield and we looked at it and decided it was a pretty good deal. We’ve been with the company for 20 years. We filed a claim for our washer. It was not spinning very fast and it was making a lot of noise, and so the clothes were not dry. We did the claim online. The website was very easy to use. They said the contractor would contact us within one to two business days. The contractor was early. He’s been out at our house before repairing things, and he’s always very professional, very prompt and courteous. They were unable to get the parts, so they cashed it out.
Everything was fine once we finally found out that they were going to replace the item. I talked to American Home Shield the night that he came out, and talked to someone who said they were shipping the parts, but the contractor had already told me that they couldn’t get the parts. The person that I spoke with at American Home Shield was kind of not very professional, but then I got another lady who was very professional and got me in touch with the correct department, and they handled it very promptly.

There was a time when I had an issue with AHS. I was paying directly to AHS and their contractor claimed that they came to my house. But then, they never did. Still, that was straightened out and AHS didn't charge me. I had to wait almost five months though before they claimed a buyout. So, it was hard for me. Recently, GM Appliance Service, AHS's contractor serviced my claim for an appliance issue. The tech needed a part and he told me which part that was. He ordered it and then came back to put it in. Everything has been working since then.

I don't have any difficulty in submitting claims. The only thing is that nobody comes right out. Sometimes, it's at least two days' wait. But this time, it wasn’t as hot. It had actually gotten a little cool here so I just had the fan going. Last year, when I called, it was probably two days' wait and it was really hot. But the contractor provided good service. The tech wasn’t here long either. He immediately saw what the problem was and got it taken care of.
This time, the air conditioner wasn’t shutting off. It was just running and it wasn’t cooling as it should’ve been. So I knew something was wrong with it because I usually have it set on automatic and it wasn’t cutting off like it should have. I called on a Thursday and the tech from Climate King didn’t come until the following Tuesday. I don't know if there’s anything American Home Shield can do about that and if not, then everything else is okay. I also saw an increase in the amount of what I pay every month because when I started paying, I was paying $49 and now, I pay right at 56. So I’m not sure what happened that it went up. I’m sure they sent something but sometimes, I don't read my stuff. With my plan, I have to pay $100 when I call them.

The tech was timely and he was a good guy. I've had Home Shield for about four years now and everything has been done just fine. I had another company before and their prices were going up. They were great. I had no problem with them. It was super easy submitting that claim to AHS. I chose to do it via phone, and within an hour, I had gotten a call from June Appliance. So, they’re working very hard at it, but we still don’t have a refrigerator producing ice cubes. They’re doing a good job. We had two claims with American Home Shield. One was for the refrigerator in the past, which never got to working. And then we called them up because the washing machine quit working. So, when they were out, we said, “You know, you never got that icemaker working.” They said they’ll take care of that. So, as far as the washing machine, it was the most recent one and it was fixed. I’m a real estate broker. I’ve been giving my clients AHS coverage for years and I finally got it for myself this year. I just decided I would try it because my client seem to be happy with it.
