AHS is a great program and I’m glad I have it. It’s really helping out since moving into the house with anything I’ve needed for any kind of warranty claim. I’ve done two. One was for breaking in the locks and the other was for the two faucets that were leaking. I made a claim online and the process was simple. Plus, the time it took the contractor to come out was great and I was ecstatic. The contractor was great and everything worked out perfectly. If you don’t get AHS, you’re crazy.

I have used American Home Shield for a long time and even in Las Vegas where I lived before, I have never had any problems with them either when I was calling to request a service or when that requested person comes to my home to fix whatever the problem was. If they can fix it right away, they have done so. If they have to have to order something and they did in Last Vegas, they ordered it and it was paid for by American Home Shield. I never had any argument where I had to talk to them about why they were taking such a long time to replace a part. I had some trouble when I lived in Las Vegas, but American Home Shield always sent out somebody who was very competent and fixed whatever my problem was.
I had a very nice gentleman come out to do the oven about nine months ago. He had to order some parts, and it took about a week and a half for that part to come. Then he came out again, installed that part, and he was very good. American Home Shield has always kept me in touch with everything that was going on and the services have been excellent. I would highly recommend American Home Shield because they take the worry off of the consumer when calling one telephone number.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. One was for broken garage door chain and the other was the garbage disposal that was not working, but they replaced it with a machine with the motor and it now works fine. I submit claims on the phone since I'm not very good in submitting in online. It's easy to do because they answer my phone. Sometimes, it takes little longer and I have to be on phone for 10 minutes before somebody talks to me, with the music on. That is the only other inconvenient thing, but other than that, it's fine.
And then normally, when the thing goes back, it happens on a weekend. That's not in their official hour, 8:00 to 5:00 on Monday to Friday. So naturally, it is hard to get people to come and do the job. Normally, they cannot do the job most folks like a plumber or electrician who are not available on the weekends. They usually give us a time. Whoever I talk to, they also give them the group's number, so we call them sometimes too.
Aces Garage Door was nice and very professional. They did a good job. They're fast in deciding the issue. There was once when they said, "We have to order for these parts." They usually order the parts through Amazon or somewhere. My wife called them because it has a lifetime warranty. She called for the chain and then they delivered the chain to our house, and then Aces Garage Door guys came in and installed it. They came with the $75. The guy got his fee and finally did the job. The garbage disposal was a separate equipment. They ordered from here, they came Monday, and said they are going to order a very similar one that I had. They brought the parts with them.
They changed the motor fan a few months ago. The fan motor of the air condition went off. But whoever AHS contacted came and told us to change the whole system. I said, "No. This is a new house. Why should we change the whole system?" I asked them what the issue was and they said the motor was the main issue. I then told them to fix the main issue and if it continued to bother us, then we'll call AHS again to fix other things. But as soon as they put the motor, everything worked fine. Whatever they send, if they pinpoint the issue, they should fix that and not advertise for the air condition. They make good definition and that is what we should get. That was beyond the scope. But AHS did their job and I'm satisfied 100%.

My washing machine stopped working. It would fill up and the water wouldn’t go out and I would have to tip the water out. I called American Home Shield and they said they would schedule me a date, then they would send me an email to book somebody to come to check it out. A contractor came out in a couple of days. He was very nice and kind. He explained the issue to me. I was out there with him and he looked through everything to see if he could get it working, but he couldn’t. He talked to somebody, came back and told me that they couldn’t repair it. They replaced it, which took about two weeks. They sent me an email with some different washing machines and asked which one I liked. I had a whirlpool and had gotten a more modern GE. Whenever I have any problems, I would call AHS and they would send somebody out to fix the issue. Most of the time they could fix it.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield over the phone was pretty easy to do and dealing with their contractors was good. They used to charge the card I have on file with them after the service is completed, which I liked. Now they have to ask if the work has been repaired and you have to call in and pay the bill. When I had two service calls within two weeks and two different people called me, I could not decipher for which claim the bill they sent to me was.
When I called AHS, they said they didn’t know if the payment went to the first one who did not do this work or the second people. Now, I keep getting these updates saying that my bill is overdue. Then every time I call in to see what the problem is, they say that it’s straightened out. But a week or so later, I see a bill saying that it’s overdue again. Other than that, my dryer is working now since the repair, though my ice maker has stopped crushing ice again. And I had to put a call in for it. Overall, AHS is okay and I will tell people to go with it. I've been with American Home Shield for a while and I just stick with what works. I also have about five family members that have them.

My air conditioning wasn’t cooling so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. Whenever I submit claims over the phone, the experience depends on the volume of calls. But once I got through, making the claim was not difficult. The contractor who came out was good. As soon as they figured out what the problem was, they seemed to be knowledgeable and they wanted to address the issue as quickly as possible. They had to get some approval from Home Shield first, but once they scaled that hurdle, they were able to come out and get the job done. After around four days, my air conditioning was repaired completely.
A thing about Home Shield though, there seemed to be additional fees involved, which I’m not always aware of, and sometimes those fees can be pretty substantial as well. It would be good to know about this upfront and for Home Shield to be a little better in mitigating the cost of those fees. The fee could start going into the thousand and then the impression is it kinda defeats the purpose of why I have insurance in the first place. Other than that, American Home Shield is a service one would want to have and I’ll recommend them.
Thanks for sharing your AHS experience Lanre. We are happy to know that your a/c issue was resolved. I can understand your frustration with out of pocket cost. We are working on methods to better communicate expectations at the start of the membership. We look forward to servicing your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

One day I was standing in the kitchen and all of a sudden water came out from underneath the sink on to the floor. There was an issue with the piping underneath the kitchen sink. I called American Home Shield and told them that there was something loose. Sometimes we can basically reattach a part but I didn't wanna flood my kitchen when I drain my sink. So I told them to send somebody, and they were really prompt. And within the next day or two, a plumber from Mr. Rooter came out. My husband was here during the service and he said it was really pleasant. The repair took half an hour. The problem was fixed and it has been fine ever since. It was excellent.
We had a second claim with American Home Shield. We have a Jenn-Air Cooktop, which is one of those flat cooktops that has three different sections. After we moved in, we figured out that there was a downdraft. The switch on the built-in exhaust fan was broken and the smooth cooktop did not work. We didn’t really realize it until after we had purchased the home. So we called American Home Shield and the people from Swift Electric who were sent out here were amazing and responsive. The gentleman said he fixed the smooth cooktop and he engaged it again but then the red light that indicates that there is heat to the burner was permanently on. That was a safety concern because I always thought the burner was on when it was not. The good thing is those two burners are working again.
As for the switch for the downdraft, the technician found a replacement and he came out again but he got the wrong switch. This has been going since July 30th. The last time a tech came out was August 23rd and he was from Swift. I just wanted my stove to work, so I gave it another week because he said they would look for another switch. Then last Wednesday I spoke to the AHS rep, Javier. I asked him what was going on and what we had to do and he said they haven’t heard back anything from Swift Electric but he would check into everything and would call me back on Thursday. In the meantime, I also called Swift Electric and told them what the AHS rep said that Swift didn’t submit anything after their last visit. Swift said they surely submitted it on August 30th.
I waited for Javier but he didn’t call me back, so on Friday I called AHS’s regular customer service number. I had to leave a callback number because they were really busy and somebody called me back. But I was told to talk to their purchasing department. The AHS rep didn't explain why I needed to do that, so I left another callback number. They called me back but told me they couldn't help me and that I needed to talk to the other department. By that time on Friday, I was done and I thought I was gonna try it again on Monday. Then last night, I called AHS back to get an update of what was gonna happen. I talked to the rep, Wanda and she was literally condescending, insinuating that I wanted a new stove out of this whole thing. I didn’t know why she was compelled to talk to me in that manner because all I really wanted was my stove to work.
At that point, I really wanted them to replace the switch. If replacing my switch would fix the other switch, I would be totally fine with it. But Wanda said I had to wait for another five to seven days. She assured me that she would call me back next Monday and that was how we left it. Everything else has been totally pleasant but that was really not the customer service I was expecting last night. Swift Electric’s customer service couldn’t have been any nicer but that of American Home Shield, no. If it’s their policy that I wait five to seven days, I’ll be fine. I’ll wait. Now I’m just gonna sit here and wait and see if Wanda would call me back. If she doesn’t then I will call AHS again.
All the technicians or the service people that American Home Shield has sent out and that have showed up have been amazing. I’m not quite sure, however, what’s going on on their end with the customer service. I did research on the internet before our closing company picked them and I had read only good recommendations for American Home Shield so this whole stove thing has kind of thrown me a bit for a loop. Still, I’m not completely dissatisfied with them because so far it has not been that unpleasant of an experience. They have really tried until last Wednesday.

Having American Home Shield gives me a cushion from catastrophic, unexpected expenses. Their service is just not necessarily what they project on TV commercials because they make it look like if the appliance is not serviceable, they will replace it. From my past experiences, one of my biggest problems with them is the fact that they would have someone try to fix things and then they would stand by. I had a stove that went out and I wound up buying a new one for my home, but they only wanted to offer me a few dollars to replace it. It got so frustrating that I just gave up on it.
The only way to submit a claim nowadays is over the computer because anytime I try to call it in, I have a lot of trouble like being put on hold forever. The people that represent them on their phone lines are always very nice, but it always seems like there are certain things that they cannot do. But I usually don’t have a problem with the contractors. Service Mechanical fixed my washing machine and they were very good. Overall I use American Home Shield a lot and though I recommend them, there is room for improvement.

On my microwave, the door that opened to activate the vent wouldn't close. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and my interactions with the representative was very nice. Although the contractor said that there was no way AHS would cover the microwave door, he tried and it did work. So, I was very, very pleased. American Home Shield has worked out well for us and so I would recommend them.

I routinely do a few things with my AC. One is maintenance and I make sure my filters are clean. Then, I routinely have a company come out and they do my fall furnace check. They make sure if things are good for the winter. They also come out in the spring and do my air conditioning check and they make sure everything is okay. The tech came out and said that I had a problem and that I needed to look at it. I was shocked and there was water running everywhere. It rusted everything out and it was a mess. He showed me something and he said that it was broken. I told him that before he fix it for me, I was gonna call American Home Shield and see what they can do for me. He said okay and that he was gonna stop right there where we were at and if I needed him to do anything, I could call him and he could come back.
I called American Home Shield and put in an order to have someone come out. The techs called me and told me when they would be here. They showed right up and introduced themselves as who they were. I said that I've noticed the water leaking and that I wanted them to come downstairs and show them where all it was leaking. He understood perfectly well once he looked at everything and touched everything, and it was fine. I took him to where the furnace was and he knew immediately what was going on. They said it was my coil and that it was a big mess. They replaced the coil and the leak stopped.
They also checked the air conditioner outside. They took care of everything. They disposed the old mess and put in the new and he said that American Home Shield was not gonna pay for ductwork. I also looked at my contract and it said that AHS did not cover it. The unit has been fine since the repair. I was happy to get it fixed for the amount I got it fixed for. American Home Shield stood behind on what they said they were gonna do. I knew what was going on when I got into it and everything was fine. I've been satisfied with them. I've had this service for quite a few years and I got my neighbors into it, too.

We had an air conditioning claim with American Home Shield. It took a week for the contractor to come out and it was hard on us because we have an infant baby at home and the house was really hot. But they gave us the soonest available appointment. When the contractor came he said the capacitor was out and he did a good job. The air conditioning has been working good since the service. AHS was helpful for us.

I was having my kitchen remodeled and the people removed some of the electrical outlets. The guy felt that the air was coming through there and I told him that was weird so we took off the vent cover and realized that the metal box was disconnected. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and it was very easy. The person recommended a certain company to come out but then I told him that I'd like to have back the people who fixed my air conditioner before and that was not a problem as the contractor was still on their list. There was a flexibility and I liked that. Then, I paid my $75 co-pay through the person who helped me. The contractor that came out was wonderful, helpful, explained what the issue was, and why they needed to fix it. They replaced my air conditioner inside the house in the last two years so I really like them.

American Home Shield's website is good but they should put some place in there where you could put a preference on the assigned contractor. I had a problem with my pool a year ago and they sent out a contractor. When the cooling generator in my pool wasn't working this time around, American Home Shield assigned the order to a different contractor, but they never followed through. I had to call American Home Shield back and they had to reassign it to a different contractor. That was when I requested to use the previous contractor that we had who did a good job. AHS went ahead and had the previous contractor come out and they took care of it.
One thing that I have noticed with other warranty issues and repairs that was included with AHS is that there are times where the contractor has to come out twice in order to get the issue resolved. When the contractor comes out to repair the issue, they’ll say the needed part and they have to get authorization from AHS. Once they get the authorization, then they come back out the second time with the part. If AHS had a way of giving immediate authorization for the parts because the contractor had it with them, but they couldn’t install the part until they had authorization. So they had to make two trips and had to wait, which delayed the repair.

My air-conditioner was not blowing cold air. I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone and it was easy. We did the air-conditioner twice and we weren't here the first time but our interaction with the first guy over the phone was good. The second time, we were home and the contractors came out to look at it, then they gave us some estimate on what it was gonna cost. The heating company wanted to charge us a lot more, so we got back to AHS. Several times, we asked for an adjustment that the amount was not right.
My agent contacted a lady she knew and this lady took care of things. After a week, of dealing with it, the lady called us and took care of it and adjusting the price to a lower price was done right away. The heating and air-conditioning company wouldn't order the part though until I send the signed papers in. So, I did that and it was difficult for me to do that. We don't have internet and to sign these papers was in DocuSign, so I had to get these papers copied through with my daughter-in-law, sign them, take pictures and then send them over to the heating company. Then, the heating company rep came back saying that I had to sign the old paper that was for the larger amount. I just took a picture and said that I wasn’t gonna sign the paper and I haven't heard from her since.
Trying to get a hold of AHS was very difficult as well. When I’d finally get somebody, he would say that I have the wrong person and that I needed to get to another person. This happened a lot. My husband did it too and this has been going on for a couple of weeks until he finally got the right person. But, overall, we had a good experience with American Home Shield and I'd recommend them.

I've been with American Home Shield for several years now. We have two properties with AHS, our home and a rental. Submitting a claim to them has been good which I almost always do online. We had one contractor that we had terrible experiences with. He overstepped boundaries because he got in here and he started telling me about all the problems he’s had with his ex-wife, and he didn’t wanna fix the problem. Also, I’ve had problems with his work because it was never repaired correctly. I don’t want him on my property anymore. In fact, every time I request AHS for somebody I'd tell them not to send those people. I would like it though if they would put a note in their system.
On the other hand, Wooley, the contractor in this town that AHS sent out has been wonderful. They have the highest ethics and they send out the hardest-working people that really want to solve the problems. And the people that AHS has sent to our rental, which is in Arizona, have generally been good. My overall experience with AHS has been excellent and I have recommended them to several people.

Our AC wasn't cooling as the capacitor on it had gone out. I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield and they said it was going to be a couple of days before somebody could come out. At the time, it was in like late July or August in Alabama. When I told the rep that, she told me to give her about an hour and she’d send me somebody else that day. She also said that if she couldn't, I could call somebody and AHS would just pay for it. In less, than an hour, AHS had somebody come out that day and fix my AC issue. All in all, the process was easy and AHS helped out the whole way. The technician was great too and we're very thankful to have the warranty instead of having to pay full price for the service.

New home to us, built in 2001. Winter 2016, natural gas hot water heater stopped working so my wife called AHS. Customer service told us they would find us someone to fix our problem as I was out of town for work, and they would get back with her in 3 days. Never happened. Meanwhile, late winter and I do not know a lot of folks who can deal without hot water for 3 days. We called them back and was told nobody in our region was authorized to do the repair in Northeast South Carolina, So we opted to call ourselves.
Called gas company and immediately had a list of names of qualified and certified contractors to take care of our issue. Nobody ever called us back, we had to call them. This was a week later. We actually called them to find out how to get reimbursed for what we spent and were told we would only be reimbursed a portion of what it cost. This happened 2 years ago, but I get annoyed seeing the commercials on how they are there for you and for peace of mind. Just like aftermarket warranty companies for your vehicle.

This company is the worst example of customer service and a SCAM. Average wait times is 30 minutes to 1 hour to speak to a representative. They will put you on hold and hang up on you. The contractor that sent was to my home was there for 5 to 10 minutes and based on his expert opinion they denied my claim because it was pre-existing and did not notify me by email, phone, or letter. I am a property manager and unfortunately a lot of our clients have their maintenance covered through AHS. They have extremely poor communication, deny claims for bogus reasons and don't watch their own vendors. We have been trying to get a leak fixed for over 2 months and the only time we get answers is when we call. The last plumber stated he did not know what the problem was. Really? By the way this is the second plumber who has been out there and after 3 holes cut in the ceiling they still have not repaired anything nor diagnosed the leak. The latest information is that there is an AC leak. So far we have been told it was tiles leaking, a tub drain leaking, and AC and still have not had a repair done. One of the plumbers was even kind enough to remove the toilet and leave it in the bathtub for us.
After we had to call back of over a week of the toilet in the tub they did let us know one thing, the toilet was not leaking. This is only one of many experiences I am fortunate enough to have being in the property management business. We have complained and voiced our opinion about their vendors to no avail. They do not care. All we get are excuses and the run around. Currently they are recalling the plumber who advised me that it was the AC line, while speaking with AHS they advised that it was a tub assembly that the plumber replaced, their communication with their own vendors does not even line up. Again, this is one of many instances.
We discourage anyone from getting AHS as you have to keep in mind they are a business not a charity and are in the business to make money not repair your items for a service call. I hope this review finds a homeowner who will not be taken by their empty promises and chooses to save their own money. Another thing, as I have over 1000 properties in our management and hundreds of service calls through AHS annually I can tell you I have never once seen them replace an AC, they will band aid it until they blame you for the problem and advise you it's not covered. Water heaters, they will replace those but only with an $850 "code upgrades " and that's after you have to pay your service call. I promise you I can find a hundred plumbers who will replace a water heater for $850.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I am disappointed with the service or lack thereof that I received from the contractor that AHS sent out for my water heater. I did not have any hot water and am still without. After being without for 4 days, the repair person was out for 10 minutes, he said it was OK, he just needed to turn the pilot back on. The pilot went out again about 10 minutes after he left. I have been unable to reach AHS to request a follow-up. I have been on hold for the equivalent of 3 hours on three different days and have been unsuccessful in reaching anyone.
I have to work and unfortunately do not have the luxury of staying on hold all day waiting for someone to contact me. I am unable to request a follow-up via the website, because the status is shown incorrectly. The status is shown as contractor unable to reach me. I have also called the contractor after the visit since I have been unable to reach anyone at AHS. Our AC went out in July 2018. AHS sent out a company to make repairs at which time the contractor told us that the unit in the attic was not working due to an electrical fire. We were terrified but were told that the home warranty would likely replace the unit because of all of the damaged parts. AHS came back a few days later and told us that they would be repairing the AC unit. After talking for HOURS over the last months, we still have not fully resolved this issue. We replaced the unit on our own but AHS did not want to reimburse us for what we paid out of pocket... not even for the part that our contractor told us was the original problem. I have been a customer of this company for 3 years and received horrible service. They made every step of this process difficult. I would not recommend them to anyone buying a house.

The contractor came out the next day and said I had a leak from two valves and they needed to be replace. I didn't hear from anyone again until I called on Thursday 08/30/2018. The owner of R&K told me he just got the ok to order parts that afternoon on 08/30/2018. He (R&K) said that someone quit that why they didn't get the ok to order my parts until then 08/30.
He also told me that because of the holiday that I wouldn't be able to get my parts until Wednesday 09/05 or Thursday09/06, today R&K told me that the parts came in and that it will be Monday 09/10 between 8-10am before he can installed the parts. It will cost me $560 to filled my ac back up with Freon. It has been 95+ degrees since it went out. I had to go buy window units because it's taking so long to fix. I feel I am being overcharged for the Freon and it's been 10 days since R&K check the unit and we still have to wait until 09/10 if he shows up then. How long has he been a contractor for American Home Shield? I am so disappointed in the service.
Good morning Linwood,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Our recent experience with American Home Shield was very good. We filed a claim for our air conditioner that stopped working completely. The gentleman came on time and was very polite. I showed him where is the unit and he checked it. He also checked outside since a part of the unit is outside. He then fixed the issue very quickly and professionally. It was a very hot day and we are elderly, so that was wonderful that we have the air conditioning working. I was very happy.
I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. We have a very good help. We have an older house and from time-to-time something happens. Although there were years that the warranty was not needed, the small things eventually started hopping around so we were able to get help when we needed it. We’re very pleased with this company.

My AC stopped cooling and I submitted a claim for it online, which was very easy. American Home Shield's response took less than 24 hours, but not as early the next morning as I would have liked. When I tried to contact them, I was told they would work through it when they could get to me and then, they didn’t contact me till later that afternoon. They weren’t able to get anybody out for another day. The contractor didn’t come out until Saturday and when he came, he looked at the AC. He told me that the capacitor had blown and he put some new ones in. Now it's operating fine.
Overall I’m extremely happy with American Home Shield. I wasn’t very happy with the contractor with the way their initial contact was, but they got it fixed. Having AHS is extremely valuable because I’m a single person and I don’t know how to fix any of my stuff. It helps me have some peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong, I can contact them and they’ll find somebody to come fix things for me and with a budget.

Our air conditioner in the living room stopped cooling all of a sudden. We had it at night and then in the morning, we didn’t have it at 1:00. We have a dog, so we were a little concerned about her. We submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and the process went well. While the contractor that came was very nice, cooperative, and answered our questions, it took a month to get them here. But they were here on time and they found a small leak. They replaced something and so far, the air conditioning is working fine. Overall, we’re happy with American Home Shield so we’ll call again if we have a problem. I would also recommend them to other people if they are looking for a warranty.

When I had a plumbing issue, I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I talk to the reps, instead of going online, as I am 86 years old. They have always been good. The contractor, Service Contractors Plumbing, came out. Robert, the plumber, worked on the toilet and he was excellent. His knowledge of plumbing was great and I could tell he is a master plumber. He got there and did the job right. The toilet was rocking a little bit and he said it was also running all the time. It was filling up with water so he plugged it. I’ve been doing business with AHS for 30 years and I'm very happy with them. My experience with AHS has always been very good and I would continue doing business with them.

When I bought this house, the garage door was working and it was fixed by the sellers once. I purchased a home warranty from American Home Shield and then after a few days, I realized that the garage door was not working and the automatic feature was not opening. So I submitted a claim with AHS online, which was easy to do. I had a brief chat with the contractor about what he was fixing and what actually happened. He was helpful and tried to explain the things to me as much as I could understand. He was also very courteous and things went well. The garage door performs well and is still working. I would recommend AHS.

I'm from Upstate New York. I have lived here for five years but I didn't know any repair places. If I was back in New York, I would have known who to call and I don't have to worry about repairs. American Home Shield is an easy way to get everything fixed when you need it rather than hunting for somebody. Recently, I had a claim for my clothes dryer. It sounded like a plane was taking off. I have submitted claims both over the phone and online before but the last couple of times, I've done it online which is much easier. The contractor who came out was very friendly and efficient. He knew what he was doing and had to order a part. My experience with American Home Shield has been all positive. So far, everything has been working good and AHS seemed to take care of everything.

We were having issues with our washing machine and so I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. That experience was very quick, easy, and intuitive. After I filed the claim, they sent a Sears contractor who was very professional. He isolated the problem quickly, ordered the part necessary and went about his way. However, the repair hasn't been completed yet since the part just came the day before yesterday but I got a call from American Home Shield and they told me that the contractor would be up tomorrow to finish the job. My experience with American Home Shield has been very positive and I think that they're good value for the money. I've recommended them to my family members.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good and bad. My water heater kept going off continuously. I had to reset it and turn it back on and sometimes, it will last for a couple of days. It's a gas water heater so that makes me nervous to be resetting it constantly. I explained my concerns to the guy that came out initially and he was super nice. He replaced that part and within three weeks, it started malfunctioning. He told me he's gonna replace the pipe which I had already replaced with the water heater while it was under warranty. I told him that and he said to replace it again and see if that goes well. He also said that if that doesn't work, then it's the water heater that needs to be replaced.
But he's gone and I don't know if he no longer works with the company so AHS sent another guy. When the other tech came, my son had reset the water heater and it was working. The tech said that there's nothing wrong and he can't do anything about it. He said to leave it off when it goes off. The problem with that is he can't come right away and it takes a couple of days for them to reschedule. I also can't leave the water heater off and we have no hot water. He then told me the company can give me an allowance and I can replace the water heater. He quoted me close to $1,000 for an upgrade that I probably don't need.
I've also been without an AC for a week now but thankfully, it's been raining. The tech came out the next day but apparently, the compressor burned out completely. The tech said the compressor needed to be replaced and he had to place an order. He quoted me $1,048 upgrade. Plus, American Home Shield may pay $10 for Freon but I have to pay $60 or $70 per liter. The tech also said it takes five to seven days but it's already been seven days today but they haven't called. I'm okay with a fan but my son is not and he's staying with my parents. My parents have AHS as well. Something happened to their water heater, too and somebody came out and fixed it.
I thought the whole point of paying this AHS insurance is so I don't have to worry about those things. If they're covered, then great but if they're not, then I totally understand that I didn't choose that combo program. But I have the combo and I have everything supposed to be covered. I didn't realize that I was still gonna have to come up with $1,000 to $1,500 to replace my water heater. Also, they're not replacing my AC. They're replacing the compressor but the other tech that came out said he'd recommend that they replace the AC because the compressor is very expensive. It was obvious that there was something going on and the AC is no longer working properly so it can burn again.
But the companies that AHS hire obviously want to make their money and they always quote me an upgrade. I called my brother-in-law and he told me about this guy who fixed his ACs. I called this guy and he said my compressor did go out and that if I had AHS or any other home insurance, they're always going to quote an upgrade so I ended up paying the same thing. I'm thinking I'm gonna get rid of AHS.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The AC wasn’t cooling at first and AHS sent Greenway Home Services to fix it. They determined that the coil was the problem. We saw it and it was clearly the issue. The air conditioning would be fine but over the next three weeks, we got zoned air. In one room, we would have it set at a reasonable temperature, but, all of a sudden, it would be 77 or 78 degrees in there. However, in the kitchen and the extra room, that is on the same unit, it would still be working.
We had to have Greenway come out again and they said that the coil that they replaced was too good for our unit, so in order to bypass how they needed it to work, what we needed to do was to make sure that at least two rooms stayed at the same temperature. That was not really repairing the problem. That was just telling me how to counteract it. Anyway, we did not move them for four days. All three stayed at 73 degrees and then all of a sudden the one room was 78 degrees again. It was nonsense. They had to come back 11 times.
We can control the AC, but you can’t control how quickly it cools. Again they came out and this time the guy said that the reason that it was not working was I was only running one thermostat off a three-thermostat zone board. He told me to turn all of them off before he got there and he proceeded to argue with me and tell me that I was only running one. He came back out and said that they needed to replace the zone board. They replaced it and, again, we got to Friday, Saturday or Sunday and the two rooms were fine but the one room was on 77 or 78 degrees and it was hot.
My electric bills were $250 more all summer because they couldn’t get it fixed. I had called American Home Shield every single time to report that there has been another issue. Greenway couldn’t come back out until they had the order from American Home Shield. They had to have a reroute number or a redo number. I even asked them if they can send somebody else out here because all Greenway was doing was waste their time. I did not even feel like Greenway was trying until I started getting belligerent and ugly with them. I also told AHS how unhappy I was.
They said that they could send somebody else out here, but if that company said that the same thing that was wrong with it was that Greenway said, I would have to pay another $100 fee. It was ridiculous and I was not gonna pay another $100 fee. Then the last time Greenway came out, they sent somebody else out and the dude said that the damper was bad. It seems to have worked and I haven’t had any problems in about three weeks since they’ve been out and had the damper replaced.

Our AC is working fine now. Whenever I needed to communicate with AHS, I call them. Sometimes there's a wait time because the representatives are busy. In some other times, it just takes a couple of minutes. I usually hear back within one or two days from somebody once I file a claim. They send me an email right away saying they're processing the claim. Their contractors were great, very professional and dedicated, and they took care of everything. I would recommend AHS. We got three AC units and two of them went out. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and the contractor that they sent out was great. The compressor of one of the two units in question went out and there was a specific process that the contractor had to go through to get AHS to approve to make the repairs. We submitted the claim on a Friday night and the contractor was out on Monday to assess it. The contractor didn’t get their approval until around Thursday morning. In situations like that, especially where we live wherein the weather was in the hundreds during the day and high 80s and low 90s at night time, it was quite miserable and waiting for American Home Shield to approve that repair took longer than what it should.
I wish that they would consider the contracts that they have in place and have to offer. It would be nice to have someone that would be able to fix things during the weekend in case of emergency. I would even pay extra for that service and be able to get after-hours service as opposed to the straight-up Monday through Friday business hours. I would be more than willing to pay extra for that service to have that peace of mind to know that the very next day, someone could be on site to resolve the problem. Nevertheless, the contractor did a fantastic job and the AC units have had no problems since then. AHS is always responsive and I would recommend them.

My air conditioner wasn’t working and I called in a claim with American Home Shield. Most of the time all I get is just the automated machine. Depending on what time of day it is, I might get a response - a text or email from them saying that it has been turned over to the contractor, and in that case, Myers. Most of the time Myers call the next day. There’s also been some days where it’s just been hot and unbearable for me so I just call them myself.
Jonathan has been the one that I’ve seen more often than anybody else and he has been cool with me. He handles everything and lets me know what’s going on. He explains to me answers to any questions that I have. Since the repair the air conditioner has been fine. American Home Shield proved to be valuable. As far as being a single woman and trying to find somebody to repair stuff, it’s kinda taken that little guesswork out of some things. He also said that it was a lot of work coming to our house and that I needed to call back American Home Shield, so we did. I called and said that I had the electrician, but it was a plumbing issue. They sent over a girl from Hers & His Plumbing and she looked at it and said that the problem was our waterline coming into our house. She said that she couldn't do anything about it. She'd have to chop a big hole in our wall. She added that she would come back the next day, but I would have to call American Home Shield and get the authorization. I waited a couple of days, but nothing happened.

Had an issue with our AC unit and called American Home Shield. They sent out a service repair company that filled the refrigerant and the AC was fixed, so we thought. A few months had passed and our AC was down again. Called AHS again for service and they sent out a different company than before. This company found a leak in the coil, which they believed was old based on the oil surrounding the hole. They wanted to add refrigerant again, but believed that the first company should come back out since they missed the leak. AHS only covers the first 10%, so each fill of refrigerant is $500 plus. I'm just confused on why I'm at fault for AHS failures with choosing a contractor.
Currently I've paid $50/month for service, $200 in service calls, $500 in refrigerant and still have a broken down AC unit. Still AHS wants me to pay another 500 to refill it again. So why do I have a warranty if I'm paying out this much money??? I have an angry wife that works from home and small children in a home that is reaching almost 90 degrees inside. Warranties are thrown around these days that are not paid out, but will take your monthly dues.

They need to first figure out how to not have people on hold for 30 plus minutes. Anytime I need to speak to someone, it is a 30 min hold. I tried to contact them in regards to a contractor they assigned for a job. He was rude, uncooperative and not helpful. I wanted the job canceled, I did not want him in my home. The representative I was chatting with online, it is quicker than being on hold, when it is available, canceled the plumber I had coming. I took the day off to wait for the plumber. The appointment was still showing on my web page.
I called and they said the warranty company canceled. I called and was put on hold, so I called billing. She then wanted to put me on a hold for a minimum of 30 mins. I then told her I wanted to cancel. That got me to someone quickly. He rectified the issue, but now I must wait for the plumber from 12-5, when I had it set for 8-10 am. I also had a dr appt in the afternoon that I had to cancel because they messed up. Once my contract is up I will NOT renew with them and I will NOT recommend them to anyone.

This is without a doubt the worst service that I have ever received. I'll be looking for a new insurance company when this is finished. This company certainly has no problem with receiving their monthly premium on time every month, but when you have a serious problem they act like it's no big deal. I'm stressed to the max without a refrigerator, it almost makes doing any type of cooking impossible. I've shed tears over this and it's not over yet. I should've just paid for the extended warranty on the frig, at least it would've been fixed about four weeks ago. Completely unacceptable treatment of a customer.

Our AC was not blowing cold air. My roommate, who usually is the one who submits claims to American Home Shield, filed a claim for it. It took three weeks and two different companies to fix the AC. The first guy who came out said that we needed ductwork done and he was gonna call back and talk with American Home Shield. American Home Shield called back and talked with us, but we were told that the particular ductwork was not in our coverage. They sent somebody else out and that company found that it was just a clogged line. After the repair has been made, the AC has been working fine. The AC upstairs did the same thing and got fixed too.
The contractors who American Home Shield has been sending out were nice and friendly. There was one company, though, that had rescheduled but never came. Somebody else came, yet that company still got paid. My roommate is still talking with American Home Shield about that as she is trying to find out why didn’t the company that actually did the work got the check. But other than that, I’m fine with American Home Shield. I’d recommend them.

We have a refrigerator that has the sliding door freezer on the bottom. The drawer started popping open by itself and the alarm would go off letting us know the drawer was open. It wouldn’t stay shut. We had to take some cardboard, make a doorstop and put it underneath the front of the door to keep the drawer from sliding forward. CTG Enterprises came out and looked at what was wrong and ordered the parts. When the parts came in, they installed it and we haven’t had any problems since.
American Home Shield has been really good to us. I submit my claims over the phone and I've used their automated system and have spoken with a representative as well. However, one time, we were trying to get a hold of them, but they were having trouble with their computers, so we were on hold for about 50 minutes. They told us that they would get back to me. The next day, we got a hold of them and they said that there was something going wrong with their computers and that wasn’t normal for them.
We also had a problem with the contractor sent out when they were dealing with fixing our washing machine. The guy that came out and looked at the machine and told us that it was gonna be more expensive to repair it than what it was worth. He said that we needed to get a new washing machine. He was really good. However, the guy that delivered the new washing machine didn’t know what he was doing when it came to setting up the hose that comes out the back to the washing machine. He didn’t know that the hose had to be up in the air at the height of the drum, so it didn’t work properly. I called him less than a half hour after he installed it because I was trying to do some laundry and the machine was making a God-awful noise. He came back, but he couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
They ordered us another new washing machine and it was a different guy that delivered it, and he installed it properly. He knew what he was doing and everything has been working just fine. Everybody has been great, except for the first delivery guy. American Home Shield is a good plan and it’s affordable. Right now, we’ve gotten our money’s worth and as long as they keep doing things in a timely fashion and keep solving the problems like they have, we’ll continue to be happy.

My air conditioner went out for the fourth time. I went online, requested the service with AHS, paid the $75 fee, and the person came out. The tech was great. He was very professional and very courteous. So far, the AC seems to be working pretty good since the repair. I’m very glad that I got the warranty when I bought my house. AHS is fantastic and putting in a claim and getting in a service is very fast and very easy.

I have an online app and it is very easy to file claims through that. I get an automatic response that says someone would contact me from a certain place within 48 hours. That comes in via text to me almost immediately as soon as I submit the claim. But normally, I would call the contractor after I get off the phone and I would set up the appointment because it’s very rare that they would actually reach out and call. Despite that, the appointment is rather quick. But when the contractors go out there, ordering parts would take three or four days then them trying to schedule a follow-up appointment after that sometimes would take weeks.
Going without a dishwasher for two weeks is not okay for my renters. And the AC is the biggest problem. I don’t like to let those wait more than 48 hours, especially in the summer. Then for other things, I really don’t like to wait more than a week for parts to be ordered and for a repair to be done. Another problem is the communication between all the situations. If I have a renter who's not gonna be able to be home, the contractor would have to call me 30 minutes before they get there because I don’t live there. But normally, they would forget, go out to the house and knock on the door but nobody would be there and they would leave a notice.
So there’s a breakdown between the people who make the appointment over the phone and the actual technicians who are out at the house. That’s the biggest issue that I’ve ever had. It wastes a lot of time too. If I’m driving out for an appointment and they don’t end up showing up, that’s an issue too. Most of the contractors are very good though. I have four properties that I have an American Home Shield plan on and all the recent claims have been all closed out.

My AC stopped working and once I made the claim online to American Home Shield, I got a text back saying that the company that I needed would be calling me within so many hours and they did. So, AHS has a really good system. The reps were nice enough to change us to earlier times because I’m elderly. The contractors came early in the morning which was a plus and they were very professional and polite. The first time they came, they replaced the motor. They’ve been here three times and they got the AC working again. Since the repair, I have an air conditioner when I need it, so I’m pretty pleased. In fact, I have already spread the word all over San Antonio that American Home Shield is the way to go. You have to pay ahead but when you need them, they come.

We bought a house that used American Home Shield quite frequently and it’s really very convenient. In one particular issue, there was a Freon leak in my air conditioning. I submitted a claim online and it was very helpful. It’s one of the pluses for the service I've used. However, while talking with the contractor, it turned out that I won't be eligible for.
What happened was, I had a company that I had used last year when I first bought the house. And they came out and checked my heating and air conditioning unit. Everything was working okay, except I did have a Freon leak. However, I made a mistake of having them put the Freon in and then what I was gonna do was call AHS and then have someone come out and fix the leak. Before I called, I read my contract and it occurred to me that would be something that they would be responsible for, but then, the contractor assured me that it wasn’t. Their rep said that if I would not have had the other company fill it, that they would’ve come out. But because I had somebody else do it, I basically negated their responsibility.
I would have called AHS to double check, but one negative thing about them is it's almost impossible to talk to anybody on the phone. As a matter of fact, I had a situation where I had to call to schedule something and I was probably on the phone for at least 45 minutes before I was able to talk to somebody. And then they went ahead and scheduled it with a contractor that I had never heard of before. When I went online, I found out that the contractor that they were going to use got terrible reviews on Yelp and the people who gave the reviews said that they had to use this particular contractor, because they were referred by their home warranty. I went online to try to cancel and not only could I not make the appointment online, but I also couldn’t cancel it as well. So I had to wait again and talk to somebody.
When the lady answered the phone, I could tell that she had just been overwhelmed all day for whatever reason. She sounded really stressed out. She told me that they don't pay attention to reviews and then told me that if I don’t like the service when they come out, then we’ll deal with it at that point. So I canceled the sales call and then the person told me that I had to call back AHS to cancel it. That took me another attempt to try to get through and it was a very long wait. The call got even dropped so it was very frustrating. It got taken care of but it wasn’t fine.
In addition to that, the contractors say one thing and the home warranty company says it doesn’t. I had a plumbing issue and the plumber came out and he fixed the issue with the toilet downstairs. When the plumber was about to fix the issue upstairs, he called his dispatcher and the dispatcher said that they were only called there for one issue. I wasn’t aware that if I had two toilets, I was gonna have to pay $75 for each toilet and that wasn’t explained. I thought and my understanding was, if the plumber showed up, he would fix what was wrong. However, I had an electrician that came out and he fixed everything. I had four different problems and he checked them all and fixed them. Despite these, I did renew my warranty and I did a little research and came up with the best and American Home Shield was rated number one.

I had a Whirlpool tub with a motor problem as well as an electrical issue to take care of. I also had a problem with the exhaust heater in our bathroom as well as a garage opener that wasn't really opening. I called American Home Shield to file claims for those. I work with their contractors who arrive and I support them. Oftentimes, they come and they're not able to complete a task by themselves. An extra hand always makes the job easier. The people they send are very well-trained individuals so it's easy to work with them.
Currently, I'm waiting for the garage door opener repair to be completed. I've called a couple of times to follow up on it. It looks like AHS is telling people to get in but then I get emails saying that they're looking for a payment. So, I gave them a credit card up front because they changed the payment system such that I'm not paying the provider but paying American Shield directly instead. Nevertheless, their providers are very good. I'm very pleased with the workmen especially the group that took care of Whirlpool tub. I've had them a number of times and they're excellent. The bath tub drain in my mobile home has not stopped, but it's very, very, very slow. The guy from His & Hers Plumbing that AHS sent out found evidence of kitty litter in it. He used chemicals and hand snips by hand to clear it out but nothing worked. He said there wasn't a trap. The drain just went down and made a right turn. They wanted to charge me $500 to try to go into the drain. They said the problem was there even before I bought the contract which I guess it was and they said that they don't cover foreign objects. I told them I wasn't gonna do it and I had intended to change out that plastic tub for a full size shower and I'll just have it fixed at that time. And, the guy smelled so bad that I couldn't wait for him to get out.
I also had AHS sent someone out before because the brain to my stove seemed scrambled. The contractor looked at it and said that I needed a new control panel and then he left. Three days after that, a friend of mine came over and looked at my stove. He noticed that the outlet that the stove was plugged into was cracked and it was grounding out. He fixed the outlet so I just wasted out $75 for the contractor. A month later, the contractor called me. I just waited to see how long it would take them to get back to me and it has been a little more than a month. When I read the AHS advertisement, it seemed clear to me at that time that it didn't matter if your problem arose from lack of maintenance, it would still be covered. Apparently, that is not the case and their phone system is almost impossible to figure out.

My AC wasn't working and I had to call to submit a claim as I couldn’t do any request online. They said that I owed money in my account, but I didn’t. They said they had taken that out, but it hadn't. It was frustrating but other than that, it was fine. The representatives were pretty nice and they try to get here as soon as possible. David Weckar Heating and Air came out and was amazing and really good.
The problem I have with American Home Shield is that when there's an emergency, they have to go through a process that prevents it to be taken care of quickly. I couldn’t renew my account for the rental because of that. I can wait, but my renters can't. I need to have someone that I can call right away if something happens. Another thing is that the wait to speak to somebody is always like an hour, so calling is completely inconvenient. Still, I'm gonna renew AHS for my house where I'm living in.

I am not very happy with American Home Shield! As our garage door openers do not work. The contractor came out and said yes both garage door motors need replaced! He told the insurance company that they both needed replaced. As one of the garage door openers was missing an eye they decided to deny the claim because they labeled it as it was missing parts. Eye or no eye the motor doesn’t work! We have the complete package and it says motors and wires will be fixed! So I paid $75 for them to come and fix both garage doors but then AHS DENIED! I’m very frustrated about this warranty as we decided to try AHS and before we had a different company we loved! I’m hoping they will still come back and resolve this but right now they won’t help me and I’m still very frustrated!

As with all the bad reviews, mine is similar. The contractors AHS uses are crooks, but doesn’t seem to be much of a concern for AHS. Paid $75 for a service call where the contractor came out and drained the Freon out of my AC unit and then tells my wife there were over $5000 in repairs not cover by the warranty to get the unit operating correctly and it would take 10 days to obtain the parts to do the repairs. Parts required to bring the unit to code, which aren’t covered by the warranty. He even identified a float switch was require, even though there is one, he just spent that little effort to go behind the unit where it was installed.
The prices provided for all the parts were also ridiculous. $175 for a float switch, $95 for a pan, $75 for mastic, $700 for insulation... I don’t understand if a company is reputable, how they would even allow a contractor like this to be sent out. It is obviously not in AHS’s priorities to vet its contractors and ensure their customers are receiving top quality service. Buying a home warranty from AHS is definitely not worth the money.

Operates more like a scam than a genuine service. And we feel the home warranty was not reliable. We had several issues with our refrigerator and dishwasher after moving into our home. We paid the $75 fee to pay for the technician to assess. We had several visits from one technician who ordered parts, but never successfully completed the repair parts. They closed out the job but the problem continued. Then AHS wanted us to pay another fee for a new technician even though it was never fixed from the original call. After three different technicians and several fees, the refrigerator leak was fixed but the dishwasher was never repaired.
We think the philosophy is such that if they make you wait long enough you’ll give up on the warranty, and pay for it yourself. We had other issues as well where parts recovered but making the connections cost extra. Just beware, sometimes coverage, isn’t really coverage. Each time we had to call was a saga and highly unproductive. The bottom line is they don’t really want to have to pay or to replace.

I have had American Home Shield for 3 years now and not used them at all. Mainly because my home is on an island where practically no repair/maintenance companies participate with AHS. I recently had a refrigerator go out on me. They set me up an appointment with a company that never came out and would not respond to my calls. I told American Home Shield I was going to purchase a refrigerator myself as I had already gone a week without a working one. They told me that would be fine, a service person could come and evaluate the old one to see what they would pay in replacement fees. Great Right??? Not really. They informed me that I had to leave the old one in place until the technician could evaluate it. Yeah right. You want me to go another 3-4 days without a refrigerator, just so you can tell me that the compressor has indeed gone bad. I saved myself the hassle and did not pursue any further.
Now I have had my AC compressor go bad. The coils are badly rusted and have an oil residue on them. All of the Freon has leaked out multiple times prior. I call American Home Shield with the diagnosis from a reputable HVAC company in the area. They say that their technician will have to come out. I will be contacted within 4 hours by their dispatch team. The next morning after not receiving a call, I call in and get an outside authorization (This is normal process for me in Edisto as they either never call to schedule appt or make the appt and do not show). No company has time for their employees to sit on hold as they await approval from AHS so I suggest that call back and then 3 way my service tech in.
I get back on the phone with the authorization department, wait on hold for about 30 minutes, inform the AHS rep I was told that I could 3 way call my service rep. She informs that "No Sir, I will have to call". Fine. She calls and can't approve since he is stating that the unit needs to be replaced. It is 12 years old and at the end of its life due to the salt air from the beach. I was told that a manager would contact me back. I received a phone call from Total Air Care stating that I had an appointment scheduled for Monday. I found this strange and told them that I had already scheduled for my company to perform repairs.
I called back in to AHS and was told this company was coming to give a second opinion. I could not be reimbursed until their tech first looked at the unit. Well their tech is not going to be able to come until 5 days later. That is 5 days they expect me to go without AC just so they can tell me that the unit has reached the end of its life and repairs would outweigh the cost of replacement. American Home Shield will scratch and claw in order to not pay up. I would recommend avoiding at all cost.

My water heater went out on Aug 17 2018 and I called for service on 8/18/2018. AHS sent a plumber to my home who tried to tell me I needed an expansion tank and other items to make the water heater meet city code. All of the items he quoted I did not need as my existing parts all met code. The plumber’s estimate did not list or itemized the cost of labor and parts on his work order. When I asked him to give this information to me, he refused saying AHS would provide this information. I called AHS and they said they could not provide this information to me either. Meantime I called the city building and permit department to see if I needed an expansion tank and they told me I did not need that to meet code. But this plumber would not do the work without installing an expansion tank. I called AHS to tell them I did not want to use this plumber because he was trying to charge me for extra items I did not need.
I asked them to send out a second plumber for a second opinion. They said they would need to charge an additional 100.00 if the second plumber's opinion was the same. The second plumber's opinion was worse than the first plumber’s opinion. He wanted to charge me about $1,400.00 over and above the cost of the water heater for parts and labor I did not need.
Keep in mind my house is a fairly new house so all of the apparatus going to my water heater, (i.e. vents, pipes connections, etc) are all up to code. All I needed was for the water heater to be swapped out using the existing parts. Consequently, I called AHS and said I did not want to use their contractors because they were trying to ripped me off by charging me for labor and parts I did not need. They said they would do a cash in lieu. This means I could replace the water heater using my own contractor and they would pay me for the cost of the water heater only, (no labor, parts or permits) but it would take them some time to process my order to let me know how much they were going to pay me.
In the meantime my family needed hot water so I took the risk and went on and paid to have the water heater replaced myself. As of September 3rd AHS has still not told me how much they are going to pay me for the replacement of my water heater. Every time I call them, I get a different customer service associate who does not know what’s going on and I have to explain my problem to them all over again. They said my issue is being handled by their Options Department, who is suppose to be deciding how much cash in lieu I would get but they are backed log. They won't let me talk to this department and this department to date has not settled my claim. So far I have been waiting and calling them for 16 days. What if I did not have the money to replace the water heater on my own, I would have been without hot water, waiting on AHS for 16 days.
I am extremely unhappy with American Home Shield and to date have not been paid yet for the replacement of my water heater. I’m basically paying them 40.00 per month for this service for nothing. Also, when I finally do get paid according to the way their contract is written, they are not going pay me the same amount I paid for my water heater. As soon as I get this straighten out with them... I am canceling this service. It’s a rip off...

Chicago, IL. I suggest looking elsewhere for coverage, long story to follow. We purchased a 3x3 combo plan to cover home appliances and systems for peace of mind and my wife’s had AHS. Had to place a call as our system was not a selectable item on their online scheduling (clearly covered in our contract though, pressure regulator). After a 54 minute wait (late at night understandable) and multiple hold the customer service rep (Tao) told me it was our water pressure and not covered. Wow! This guy must be some plumber to diagnose a problem over the phone.
After being very obstinate and putting me on hold to keep checking something (and granted at this point I got a bit heated) he would not transfer me to a manager, said he could put me back on hold but could not guarantee someone would pick up. This is a serious issue as we cannot use water in our house because we do not really know what the problem is (we are not plumbers). Luckily my wife is a lawyer and the contract is clear, our customer service rep Tao must also be a lawyer because he kept telling us what was and wasn’t covered. We can understand if the plumber comes out and diagnoses a problem that isn’t covered (no plan will cover everything) but to dismiss the problem out of hand is very shady business.
Long story short we got AHS for the peace of mind any insurance offers, hoping to never have to use it and it couldn’t be less of the case. I would recommend avoiding this company for your home systems protections. I have dealt with companies customer service divisions here in the US and abroad and this is the only one that has ever spurred me to write a warning to fellow consumers. Please consider this if thinking about signing up for AHS.

Sorry for the long message as I never complete one of these. Due to my horrible experience I thought this needed to written. My wife and I have had AHS for ten years for two of our homes. Recently their service has become substandard. We called in an issue with our water heater in June for rental property. We took off work twice in order to meet a technician. The technician finally actually shows up on the second visit. He diagnosed the problem and the water required replacing. This took an additional four weeks after constantly calling and requesting an update.
Apparently AHS didn’t submit the order or the authorization was held up. Later we find the water heater was at the local department store and the vendor never picked it up. Week four it’s installed to only later find he did not connect the water heater correctly. This was found during a home inspection as we’re in the process of selling the rental home. So we have to wait another week for someone to come out and finally rework the issue.
I don’t recommend AHS anymore. We’ve to moved to another warranty company. If you like calling to speak with a AHS rep and waiting 30-45 mins for someone to pick up and when they finally do they’re not empathy to your issue nor willing to get it correct then this is warranty company for you. Oh don’t ask about the nonexistent escalation process. This requires is a formal document be completed and submitted. Bottom line your issue will be fixed but it could be weeks later. Kind of waste. I would also ask for another Plumbing company if AHS recommends Bass Plumbing. Good luck working with them.

Every experience that I’ve had with American Home Shield in the past has been good. They’ve taken care of me with no problem. I have tried numerous other home warranty companies and none of them have responded in a pleasing way like American Home Shield. We had a plugged sewer line between the bathroom stool and the tub, and everything was backing up into my tub. It’s kinda stinky. I submitted the claim online then I got a very quick response. The contractor was here that afternoon. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable and handled the claim with expertise. It took him about a half an hour to fix it. Since the repair, the sewer line is in excellent condition.

He did a great job and was very nice. I would recommend AHS unless you have a lot of money stashed in the bank. I've had AHS for so long and I've probably spent more on it than I've actually gotten out of it. But when I got it, I really needed it.

Having an American Home Shield warranty has been helpful to us. When we needed our air conditioner checked, I called them and did the claim through the automated system. The techs who came diagnosed the problem, got permission from American Home Shield to get what was needed to fix the AC, and got it fixed.
We appreciate that we can get somebody out. American Home Shield has been really prompt to contact back and set up an appointment. It's been good with their contractors too except that one experience we had years ago. The contractor never showed up and didn't call us. Then, when I needed to get through to American Home Shield and wanted to talk to a customer service person, it was a nightmare. The automated system is not really usable for communication. Sometimes, it's nice to talk to a person to see what's going on. Other than that, we recommend them. We’re satisfied and we’ve kept our contract up.

I bought a house and when I moved in, I realized that the refrigerator was not working. I originally called American Home Shield for assistance on August 7. They sent GE Appliance Repair out and the repairman said that the refrigerator basically needed to be replaced. I called AHS multiple times a day for weeks and the wait time was long. Sometimes I'd be on hold for five minutes and then it would hang up on me and I'd have to call back. I talked to at least a dozen different people and everyone said they'll call me back within 24 hours but nobody did. I had one girl swear up and down that she's gonna call me tomorrow because nobody has to go through this but they're liars and everything that they've told me have been lies.
And then, the ninth of the ten reps that I talked to said to me, "Well when you called back and said that it wasn't fixed, we should've sent out another repairman." So they sent out another repairman on the 17th of August but I still have not heard from them since. It's almost a month later and nobody even bothered to call me. I bought a new refrigerator because I couldn't wait anymore and I went for a month without it. I have a diabetic in the house and we need a refrigerator for insulin but they didn't care. AHS needs to give their employees some training because they obviously have none. If nine different people didn't know that they had to send out another technician, I could not talk to them at that point without wanting to swear very much. So many people don't know how to do their job there and it's ridiculous.
I also had an electrician and a plumber come out and I used my credit card to pay the $100 charge for that. Nowhere did I sign up to store my card for any automatic payments and all of a sudden, two weeks later, they suck out almost $400 out of my account to pay part of my yearly charge. I called AHS back and made them take the card off.
When I first signed up, I told all my co-workers about AHS but now I tell people that if they've looked into AHS and signed up, they should cancel it. I was gonna cancel it myself but my mother told me that for plumbing and electricity, it's good to have the policy but I've already decided that for appliances, I'll handle them on my own.
Good morning Chrristy

He explained every single thing that he did and what parts he was replacing because he couldn't fix it. The compressor had frozen up so he submitted the order to his office on Monday because he was out on a Sunday. It took a couple of days for the part to come in so they called because they had to make sure it would be okay. I told the contractor that the dasher wasn’t doing what it was supposed to and I also asked a few questions ‘cause I thought it was the element, but it was something else. He then showed me the non-functioning part and what it should be doing and how it should be working until it finished what he did. So, early Saturday morning I called AHS and the girl I talked to was super nice and really helpful. I didn’t think I was gonna get anyone because I didn’t know if they were open on the weekends, but she submitted all of my stuff that day. The contractor that they hired came out and looked at my air conditioner the very next day. It just got fixed yesterday and we had a great experience with the contractor. I'm satisfied with AHS overall, and their contractors are really nice all the time.
There was an incident though that I wasn’t too happy about. My oven broke and it was a really old oven, so they gave me a replacement oven, but I gave the wrong measurements. So the stuff that they sent me were for the different measurements. I called AHS back to tell them I got the measurements wrong, and they sent me a list of ovens that I could choose from that were of lower quality than the original set that I got. They said it was because I didn’t give them the right measurement. So, they deducted the amount that I could use to get off of my oven and I thought that was crazy. I felt like they penalized me for making a small mistake. AHS is really good with timing but customers must be careful and make sure they get everything right the first time because AHS will make them pay for it.

Their price quote was good. My first claim with them was on the phone and that was lengthy. Nowadays, with computers you just go in there and it gets taken care of. For the second time, I submitted a claim and it was pretty awesome. It was quick and I like the fact that they send text messages on who’s gonna be coming. That was a lot more user-friendly.
The contractors are people that are fully clear of what’s going on and they’re not there to mess around. They’re there to fix the problem. Recently my pool pump wasn’t circling the water as it should be and was making a lot of noise. Now everything is working great. That repair was $400 but the whole unit cost me about 6 or 7 the last time I did it, so AHS pays itself off even if I don’t do another claim this year, which is a little comforting.

When my microwave stopped working I submitted my claim with American Home Shield by phone. AHS opened the request and somebody came, took a look and said they cannot fix the microwave so they initiated a replacement process, delivered the part and fixed it. It took almost more than a month to resolve the issue because of the time it took to release the equipment, but the contractor was good.
American Home Shield is good in terms of identifying the issue, but they assign to subcontractors who do not respond on time and don’t take things as priority. They say, “Okay. Can I use it to this model?” “I don’t have time today.” “I have a lot of things to wrap up.” “Can I come Friday?” “Oh, Friday. I’m far away today. Can you move it to next Tuesday?” I had to go to work and fix scheduling with their own to show up on time and just schedule some appointment.
One time, I had a dishwasher issue and American Home Shield sent a person who gave me a contact number but never came back. His company said they won’t come back to fix the dishwasher. American Home Shield said I have to open a new request, and if I do, I have to pay another deductible. I had to hire an outside person to get things done because I can’t keep on waiting forever. I paid for it from my pocket other than the deductible I paid to AHS. Also, they kept on increasing the prices without my knowledge. I logged an AHS service request online on 8/10/18 to have my refrigerator fixed. After multiple failed attempts by the AHS appliance repair contractor to fix the refrigerator the unit still hasn't been fixed up until today and AHS has refused multiple times to authorize a second opinion to get this issue resolved. The appliance repair company AHS is using has been rude and condescending and not customer friendly and strongly feels this issue is not urgent and in the meanwhile we have lost so much food and no functioning refrigerator to this day.
We bought a mini fridge and a couple of coolers to keep our medication and other essentials cold while waiting endlessly for AHS and its contractor to fix our fridge. I've call AHS multiple times in the past 4 weeks requesting for an update and an expedited resolution and their answer has been and continues to be that there is nothing they can do to help me as long as the appliance repair service company they are using continues to claim they can fix it, even though they've failed multiple times and our food continues to spoil on a weekly basis. Plus, each time I've asked to speak to a manager to explain my situation the customer service representative would hang up on me. I want everyone to know that if they get caught in this mad spin by AHS that they plan to frustrate you and not replace your refrigerator even though they know they cannot fix it in the hopes that you will walk away and replace your refrigerator yourself.
To this day I’ve had no resolution and plan on ending my contract with AHS and will buy a new fridge rather than waiting on AHS and it’s contractor to resolve this issue. Plus, I want everyone to be aware of the section of the AHS contract that ensures they are not liable for damages their practices may cause (see line item - #8):

I woke up Saturday morning July 14th 2018 to the sight of a water spot about a foot long and six inches wide on my bedroom ceiling spanning across the wall to another spot of similar size in the hallway. I promptly retrieved a ladder to enter my attic in Phoenix, AZ and found that the auxiliary pan under our Air Handler was full of water and leaking through holes onto the ceiling below. I called AHS that same day at 2:32p local time and started an expedited claim due to the active damage occurring because of the faulty components. I was informed that if AHS could not schedule a technician to come out within four hours then I could call back and get approval to use Outside Authorizations to have someone stop the problem.
At 6:49p I received no communications from AHS so I called in and asked if I could call a technician to come out since they were unable to schedule one, the rep said that Authorizations was closed and I would not be covered if I called a company myself that evening and I would have to wait until the next day to have someone come out. After explaining again that there was water actively leaking into my home (damages which AHS does not cover, therefore doesn't have an interest in) I reluctantly accepted her statement after multiple clarifications and waited until the following morning when I received a call at 9:08a. I was informed that I was approved to get outside authorization for a repair company of my choosing, I also asked about why I could not get this done the previous evening and I was informed that the Authorizations department was not closed at the time of my previous call and I was misinformed.
Meanwhile I had bailed out the water from the auxiliary pan and placed a pyrex dish under the area of the Air handler that was leaking to prevent further water damage. The dish which barely fit under the Air Handler would fill up about every 8-12 hours and I had to climb into the attic which can reach temperatures up to 140 degrees while it is 115 degrees outside to dump the water into a bucket to dispose of. I called four HVAC repair companies before I found one who said they are willing to work with AHS (the Technician has to contact AHS Authorizations prior to doing any repairs and the companies refuse to do so). These are major companies too, Alaskan, Penguin, and Shamrock Air all declined to agree to calling AHS for Authorizations; probably because they know the run-around you get when real repairs or replacements are needed.
I finally got a company to agree to work with AHS and send out a technician and they gave a diagnosis that the auxiliary and primary drain pans have corroded and are in need of replacement. Being that the Air Handler is 33 years old they explained it is overdue for replacement but they would attempt to find replacement parts first. They contacted the manufacturer Lennox and found that the primary pan is no longer manufactured and cannot be replaced. To solve the true problem, the Air Handler needs replacement. The repair company informed me they were unable to contact AHS and on 07/16/18 at 8:42a I called AHS and spoke to Alexia to provide information on the diagnosis I received. She said they needed to speak to the repair company before authorization to do any work can be given, and without authorization I would not be reimbursed for any repair costs.
I offered to send in the written diagnosis I was provided and she declined; I then provided the HVAC companies contact info and was told that AHS would attempt to contact them. From 07/16/18 to 07/24/18 I contacted the repair company multiple times to see if they were able to contact AHS but they had been unsuccessful, I also called into AHS no less than five times to be hung up on twice after a 56 minute and 45 minute hold to get through to Authorizations. Finally on 07/24/18 the HVAC company was able to connect to AHS and they said AHS would be reaching out to me about the authorization to do the repairs. I received a call directly from AHS's contracted company Veteran Air to schedule an appointment to have a technician come out with no explanation of why the diagnosis I had already received and spent over a week trying to connect the repair company to AHS was not being taken into consideration.
Veteran Air's first available appointment was for Wednesday 08/01/18 between 8a-11a, so I booked it and continued to climb into the attic daily to dump the water to prevent more damage which is of no concern to AHS. I informed my boss I would be in late to work and on Wednesday I waited until 11a with no communication from AHS or Veteran Air. I called into Veteran Air and they informed me they were running behind and the tech would arrive between 11a-1p. At 1:00p I called again and they said it would be within the hour. At 2:00p I called again and was told it would be another hour.
All the while I am passing the messages onto my boss which makes me look bad. The techs finally arrived at 3:00p and made some adjustments to the drain pipes and confirmed that the auxiliary and primary drain pans were heavily corroded and recommended replacing them. They spent an hour outside my house and the came back in and informed me that they contacted AHS and recommended these replacements but would have to go to the office to get a quote on parts and get further authorization from AHS.
I was told that AHS should contact me with how we would proceed with the repairs. Come 08/03/18 I have received no communications from Veteran Air nor AHS so I called AHS at 6:40p and the rep said they were told all repairs were complete and the job was done. I informed her that this was not accurate and even the written diagnosis from Veteran Air as well as the previous diagnosis state otherwise that component replacements are needed. She told me AHS would have to contact Veteran Air but since it was Friday evening I would have to wait for a callback on Monday 08/06/18. Well Monday evening rolls around and once again I have heard nothing, no missed calls, no emails, nothing so I call AHS at 7:72p and am told that Authorizations are processing and that AHS will contact me the next day.
On 08/09/18 at 3:50p I have once again heard nothing for two days so I call into AHS and speak to Tarius who says that he sent an email notice to Veteran Air which should have been sent already and they will contact me once they talk to Veteran Air to confirm there are still repairs needed. On 08/10/18 I call in again and get the same story that AHS had no idea there is still work to be done and they will contact Veteran Air and get back to me. On 08/14/18 I have still heard nothing, I call in at 9:21 to Authorizations and get the same story, halfway through the conversation the line goes dead. I call right back at 10:00a and after another 30+ minute hold time I explain the entire situation and am told once again they will contact Veteran Air and get back to me. Five times in a row over almost two weeks I have been told the same lies by five different AHS reps and have not received a single callback or email.
All the while I still have a pyrex dish under my Air Handler to catch any excess water because the auxiliary pan will leak into my ceiling otherwise and I have to climb into my attic daily to check on it. It is now 09/03/18 and I have not received any communication from AHS or Veteran Air since my last calls into AHS on 08/14/18. This company has no integrity or respect for a paying customer and has turned a relatively simple problem into a very real nightmare. I am determined to have these repairs completed and paid for by AHS as they are absolutely covered in our contract for the most expensive Shield Complete plan.
I have had to resort to seeking legal counsel as AHS has repeatedly lied to and ignored me to avoid holding up their end of our contract. This is simply unacceptable and I hope this review helps others avoid this terrible experience. Save the money you would spend on this company to cover any repairs you may need and you will also save yourself the headache of a lifetime if something serious needs to be fixed and you expect AHS to pay.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My AC stopped working. There was an electrical component failure that was preventing the compressor from coming on. My wife filed a claim online to American Home Shield and the technician that AHS sent out was really nice. He identified the problem in a minute, had the part and replaced it. He was in and out in 10 or 15 minutes. He was terrific. The AC has been perfect since then. It was a good repair service and my experience was great.

We had a person come over who were looking at getting some added efficiencies in the house. They went upstairs in our attic and the air conditioning quit so my wife called American Home Shield. The contractor came out quickly the next day, unlike when we had air done a couple of years ago where it took about four days for them to get there. The contractor AHS sent found the problem and solved it really quick. My wife was there and she seemed to be happy with it. Everything’s been going good with our air since then.

We've been American Home Shield customers for 20+ years and the contractors sent out by AHS have always been able to fix the issues so I'm very grateful for them. My son bought a house in Atlanta and on our recommendation, he also got an American Home Shield warranty contract. I've got another son who lives in Denver and his warranties are gonna go out so I'm gonna buy them a policy as a gift. By far, it is the best thing a homeowner can own. It's great.
When our AC wasn't running, I went online to file the claim. That process is easy and perfect. I love it. The contractor took a little bit longer to come out for that claim only because of the time of the year that it happened. It was also really hot and maybe a lot of people were calling in. But Allied Plumbing actually was able to come out within a day because they had a cancellation and they were awesome. They explained everything to my husband and fixed what they thought the issue was. They also left information and instructions on what we needed to do and to call about in case the AC went out again. But it hasn't. It actually runs better now than it did before.

I have submitted all of my claims with American Home Shield's online. Their online claim system is very easy and I always get a very quick assignment to a contractor. So far, none of the claims I've had including the garbage disposal were big claims. They were all service appointments that could be handled in one visit. The only difficulty I had with AHS is that I don't get too much information whenever my contract renewed each year. I signed up for email only and I might get one email, but if I miss the one email, I won't know, versus other people that when you're on email they still communicate quite a bit. They do what I ask which is email only, but it is very limited email which is different than most vendors do it.
The recent contractor scheduled an appointment right away. I had communication as they were coming to the appointment, so I know what time they would be here. They were all prepared to process it through American Home Shield so they knew what the copayment was, and everything was fine. They gave some education for me to explain things I could do to prevent the garbage disposal from going off the rails in the future. I have recommended American Home Shield to several neighbors.

I have been with American Home Shield since April and so far, our experience with them has been fine. We had an issue with the AC where it wouldn't click on. When we tried to turn it on, it would make a loud clacking sound but the compressor would not turn on. Submitting a claim online was easy and the contractor that they sent out was excellent. He was very professional and quick. He contacted me the afternoon before he was supposed to come out. He said that he was in the area and asked if we would mind if he came out. He came out after 8 o'clock in the evening and was able to diagnose the situation quickly and replace the part and got it working, which was amazing considering it was in the summer and it was hot. And we also got two dogs at home that stay in the house so we needed to be able to keep the house cool.

It is getting harder to submit claims with AHS. When you call them, it is impossible to get somebody. We’ve been with them for years and it is getting worse and worse. When I call, I talk to people from all over the world and I’m really frustrated with that. It is so hard to understand these people and half of them don’t know what they’re talking about. I live in America and I wanna speak to an American.
When I call AHS, I say I want service on something. I’m not a mechanic and I can only say my dishwasher is a GE and it is not working. But they wanna know all kinds of stuff. Why would I call them if I knew what to do? Plus, over the years, a lot of times, I got people that came here who had no idea if they were leaving. I’d tell them to leave and send me somebody else. I’m paying $800 a year plus $75 a visit then I get somebody who doesn’t know what to do. We had experiences where we had problems with the air conditioner. The guy came and pumped Freon then we had to pay for it, but the air conditioner wasn’t working. We had to call them back and they drained it because the guy overfed it. And I just paid a steep price for the Freon.
At another time, my wife called in a claim with AHS for the pool heater and the contractor came a little over a month ago. He was excellent and a perfect gentleman. He came back when he said he would come back with a part. The pool heater had a leak and he fixed it. But my heater is in service now. I don’t use it that much though. I have my granddaughter here and the water was a little cold, so I turned it on but the thing was still not working. I really need the guy to come back, but AHS is gonna charge me another $75 and I don’t wanna pay that again.
We live in a community where we have this neighborhood page where people ask questions for help. One night, they had gotten on the topic about home warranties and I was the only one that fought for American Home Shield. They had every company you can imagine under the sun. I said that I’ve been with AHS for 14 years and I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. But it is really hard when they start bringing up things. All in all, AHS has been excellent with me but they lack communication. Still, I’m satisfied with them and I have recommended them to others.

I had to call again and Charles checked everything, and he told me to make sure that the door was closed all the way. So, that was helpful, with me having back surgery. He was just really patient and understanding. He didn't try to do a rush job, so I really appreciated that. The dryer is a whole lot better now. If you are buying a home, it's beneficial and economical to invest in American Home Shield because you never know what could go wrong with your house at any given time. We recently had an issue with the AC and that had something to do with the fan on the unit that was outside of the house. How I submit claims to American Home Shield all depends on what it is and if I really need to talk to the reps or how much time I’ve got before I need to really get it fixed. Most of the time, the reps are very helpful. Every once in a while though, if they are overwhelmed and there have been a lot of calls, they are not as nice. Still, they generally are.
As far as the contractors that they send out are concerned, we’ve had some that really had no clue. So then we had to call and get another one, and we had to wait. But if we could get the right person and the right company or man, they could come in and get the whole thing straightened out. We’ve had a couple of situations where the contractors were able to come right in and get the problem fixed within a reasonable amount of time and everything has been fine. American Home Shield never sends the same contractor although we may have a similar problem. It could be a leak problem and we could get two different plumbers. Or we could have a heating problem and we could get two different people. So we don’t know who we’re getting. It’s potluck.
The last air conditioning guy that we had come in, knew exactly what the issue was because he had been to the house before. He said the AC was gonna go out, so he fixed it and it was all taken care of. So we can get some really good contractors but we can also get ones that are a big problem, like one guy that we had. It took three and a half weeks to get our heater fixed in the middle of the winter and it was because the contractor ordered the wrong part. The guy didn’t know what he was doing so American Home Shield sent out three different teams before they got the right one together. Then the tech was able to fix it. But before that, we had to use a one-room heater. So whatever room we were in, the heater was in. That was how bad it was. So it’s not all positive with American Home Shield, but it’s not all negative either. Still, if someone is old and can’t fix things anymore, you gotta have one of those things.
American Home Shield really needs to vet their people a bit better and maybe they will improve their services. They did well on the air conditioning side this time so I hope to goodness we do not have another heating issue. They’re doing great on their plumbing side as well. American Home Shield is still a good company and it’s not terribly expensive. If you are by yourself, it makes you feel better that you can call somebody and it is not gonna cost you $5000.

The person from the contracting company that I talked with was professional. The contractor came out the next morning within the time frame that was given. The electrician told me what the problem was and corrected it. I had thought that the issue was an electrical fire, but it was just mercury escaping from the bulb. He said the light fixture had three other bulbs on it, so he removed that bulb and made sure that it didn’t damage the light fixture.

I turned it off, let it sit then turned it back on but still nothing. We had just changed the filter so I made sure that the filter was properly placed and not backwards, but then, no air. I clicked that off, clicked the fan on and still no air although the unit was running.
We have a service contract with Black Diamond for maintenance of our generator and I just signed up with them a month ago to do a scheduled maintenance every year for our air conditioning, furnace, and Generac. I had them come out because they won't charge me if it's something that is super quick or if it was just Freon. There's a cap on Freon with American Home Shield so I would have just paid for it to get it going on a Sunday. The guy came out and the evaporator coil was frozen. He said there was nothing he could do, but most likely, there was a leak and they had to let it thaw so I weighed my options if I had to wait.
I put in a service call to American Home Shield and the gal there was on top of it and was checking to see if she had anybody available to come that day. She called me back in the afternoon and an hour later, the guy from At Your Service Heating and Cooling came out expeditiously. He diagnosed the problem and said that they would put in a request for authorization. He also said that whatever needs to be done would take about an hour or so depending on issues. I started trying to figure out where I could fit it and today at 3 o’clock would have been great. But I didn’t hear from the contractor this morning. On my ride home, I called At Your Service and the tech told me to call the office. I did that and left a message but I didn’t have a callback during the 45-minute period I was picking up my daughter from daycare and driving home. So, I called again when I got home from meeting my other daughter off the bus and nobody answered.
I called AHS and asked the rep if she could call the contractor. Usually, I’ve had really good experiences with people getting authorization same day or next day, but for this instance, it’s not true. There was nothing wrong with the tech and he’s been out here before. We bought the house December 29th and then we hadn’t moved in yet and there was carbon monoxide leaking outside off the charts from the large furnace. So At Your Service replaced that and that gentleman happened to be there for that install so I remembered him. He was professional and nice and we had a great experience.
All the guys from At Your Service that I’ve dealt with have been really nice when they were here. But it was frustrating for me when my daughters are gonna have another hot and sweaty night. It's 82 degrees, and they are upstairs so I'm disrupting their schedules during the week if I move them to a different room. Air conditioning is not the end of the world, but with our hectic lives, it’d be nice to have this rolling especially since it doesn’t seem that big of an issue to correct. The contractor hasn't even called American Home Shield to get authorization for what needs to be fixed.
We were out for hot water for five days and it was frustrating to wait. I had to boil water and my daughter and I took a bath together. Also, my husband who showers twice a day had to take cold showers. But when you’re facing $2,500 to $3,500 for a 75-gallon hot water heater, paying $350 is worth the wait but I would recommend for AHS to decrease their policy time of 48 hours to respond to a claim.
Aside from that, I’m glad that the service is available for people like me who bought a house that sat for two years and knowing that we’re facing interminable bills in regards to breakdowns so it’s an excellent service. AHS has been a great company and they don’t take it personally when I’m mad and I can’t get somebody out here. Overall, it’s been a very good experience and if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely sign up with AHS.

American Home Shield has been wonderful and I haven't had a problem with them, except that I ordered a replacement refrigerator, but it didn’t have an icemaker. The service call was for the icemaker that was not working, but when the tech fixed it, it has not been as cozy as it used to be and we are praying on it that it would keep working because it has gone bad. They didn’t have a part for the icemaker. I ordered a refrigerator with an icemaker and clicked on the thing like they told me.
Yesterday, it got delivered and it didn’t have an icemaker, so I refused delivery. It was not what I ordered. Now, American Home Shield is supposed to be working it out for me and the rep is supposed to be calling me today or Thursday about that. The first rep said that I refused the refrigerator, but I said that it did not have an icemaker that’s factory-installed. The rep told me about a restocking fee, but I said to her that I wasn’t doing that at all because they sent me the wrong stuff.
However, I never get them right when I call and it would be nicer if I could deal with a person most of the time. The rep was nice on the phone. She told me the process that she was gonna send me something in the mail and I was amazed. She had a replacement model an hour after we talked and when I read it, the replacement model said “Factory-installed icemaker”. After I refused delivery, she put me on the phone for 20 minutes and when she came back, she had a different tune. She said that I was correct that it was supposed to come with the factory icemaker.
The delivery people didn’t really know what they were supposed to be doing and that helped with the confusion. I’m waiting for the rep to come back to me to tell me how we would get the new refrigerator with an icemaker and it is good that they are following up the day after this happened. Other than that, since I’ve had their service for a very long time, I was impressed that it only took her about an hour to research. I am not upset with the place. I am just upset with the process that they have and that I’m getting a refrigerator with an icemaker built-in, but they sent me one without. The rep said that I should’ve kept the refrigerator and they could’ve sent me the icemaker, but I didn’t like that idea. That was not a choice. I’m hoping that everything is gonna be smooth past this point. If they had it worked out yesterday and had what I ordered, I would’ve been a happy camper.

I usually get a text message saying that my claim has been scheduled with X provider, gives me the phone number and then the provider contacts me directly.
The contractor did a good job. I had two separate service professionals from the same company. One came out to assess the issue and then the other one came out to do the install, and they were both very professional, very kind, courteous and clean. The first time they came out, they had to check the issue and then they had to order some part. That took about two weeks because the part was on backorder. But once the part came in, they came out and fixed it and so far, so good. We have been with American Home Shield for almost nine years now and we have always had good and prompt service. The local providers that AHS contracts with are very good, and I hope AHS continues to find good service professionals to partner with.

I recently signed up with American Home Shield about a year ago and I was happiest when I did. I'm retired and my money's tight and I can't afford to have a major repair replacement. We got our AC system 10 years ago and if that system goes out, the other companies will give me up to $1,500 or in one case $3,000 to replace it. But it was a $12,000 system so that would not even make a dent in. We're down here and we've got to have something done right away so I would've been up to creek without a paddle. And apparently American Home Shield replaced the whole thing so that's why I went with them. They're a little more expensive but you pay for what you get so I'm happy with it.
I had some water dripping through my closet next to my carport outside my home and it was coming from my bathroom upstairs. The plumber said that the toilet wasn't sealed on the wax seal very well and so he had to replace it. I discovered it Thursday or Friday and they couldn't get anyone out there till Monday. The guy came out, figured it out real quick, fixed it, was gone within a couple of hours and the problem was solved. He was friendly and he knew what he was doing. He left a wet back at my home but I don't think he's ever coming again so I've left it outside for him to pick up. Other than that, everything worked out good. I'm happy with AHS and I'd tell anyone that they're the one to go with.

Something was shorted out in our hot tub and it wouldn't turn on. I called in and filed a claim with American Home Shield. I had three different claims to call in on one day and their reps were fine. Knock Out Pools came out for the hot tub in a couple of days. They had to order the parts then they brought them back out. The technician was really nice and he told me what happened, but he didn't know how it happened. It was only a two-year-old hot tub and it was kinda weird that it would short out. Also, when I first moved in and turned it on, the colors changed on the lights in the hot tub. But they didn't change anymore, so I asked if the tech had any idea why they didn't change anymore. He said that I had to call the company that did the hot tub and it should be under warranty. Anyway, it seems to be working, but I've gotta find somebody to show me how to clean this thing out.
I also had a plumbing issue and had a dispute on the claim I submitted for it. American Home Shield charged me the $75 service call and I can't even tell how many $75 service calls I had paid with plumbing issues, but it would only be fixed temporarily and it never got done. I ended up having it done but I spent over $35,000 getting all my plumbing fixed. I kept getting a bill for $75 service call for the last call that I made for the plumbing issue. They charged me only to be told later that I was capped out and they couldn't do anything else for me. I asked if they could please waive that fee then because I've had the same people come out to fix those things and they've already paid all they could. They should have told me that, so I wouldn't have done it that way. I would gladly pay for anything that I got issues with and when I call in, I pay the service fee right then. Hopefully, I don't get anything else on the plumbing. Their rep said she was gonna talk to somebody and have that waived for me.
I've had American Home Shield in the past on houses in the 90s and I was surprised at all the changes and all the lack of coverages that they have now as opposed to when I had it last. I expected that it was gonna be the same but there are a lot of stuff that they don't cover anymore, much to my dismay. I have a Jacuzzi tub in one of my bathrooms and it wouldn't start, so I called and put in an order to get it fixed. American Home Shield called me and said that they couldn't remove the panel from the side of the tub and I had to pay somebody extra money to remove it for them, so they could have somebody fix it. Something is wrong with that picture and it should be their job to move that out and fix that.
Then, when the plumbers were here, they had to call in and get authorization from American Home Shield every time they wanted to do something, and that would end up taking two hours for them to move forward. They would be sitting out on their truck to get the authorization. So it is not the same American Home Shield that I dealt with in the past and I've been really disappointed with the changes. I've also heard a lot of people say the same thing lately because they are experiencing the same thing, too and that is not good. There are a lot of new companies out there that are doing it the same way American Home Shield used to do it and that would be a consideration for me when my warranty expires.

I moved into the house and the AC was continuously running. I called American Home Shield and they had an AC company out. The tech said that it was some kind of valve up in the attic. He went up in the attic and took the serial number to order the valve. He also said that it looked like the coils had been claimed and somebody didn’t get all the chemical off the coil and it damaged the coil.
So he came back the following couple of days and put the valve in and everything was good. He said to let him know if I had any problems. A few days later I called back in, the AC was doing the same thing and he came over and as soon as he got out of his truck he told me that he was not allowed to touch anything. I asked what he meant and he told me that he talked to his boss and said that because the coils were damaged by others, they were not allowed to do anything. And that he shouldn’t even have done the valve. So with him saying that, I contacted four other AC companies that day that came out and they called BS on what he said. They told me that if somebody cleaned the coils and they didn’t clean them the right way and they supposed to have done this two weeks prior to my moving in, there was no way that the chemical or anything on the AC would’ve damaged the coils that quick. It would’ve taken years to do that.
They said that the reason the first AC company said what they said was because the warranty company doesn't want to replace the AC unit. They wanna do what they can in order to not replace it. So then my area rep called in for a second opinion without me knowing. An AC company came out, went up in the attic, and looked. The tech told me that my AC coils look fine and noted it on the paperwork that he gave me. The only thing that he saw was the AC was a little bit undersized and needed to fix some of the ductwork. I fixed the ductwork and the following week, I ripped out the AC unit and paid for it myself to get it replaced with a new unit because it all started to hassle.
The other claims that I filed with American Home Shield, including the icemaker, the refrigerator, and the plumbing, were fine. Everything with American Home Shield was absolutely perfect. But when it came to the AC unit, it all went downhill from there. It was absolutely horrible. The way that American Home Shield did what they had to do and the parameters they have in dealing with the other AC Companies I dealt with that don’t do warranty with them anymore because of the parameters they have setup through the AC, which they wouldn’t do. The AC companies don’t even do American Home Shield warranties because they got tired of being dishonest to people.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim since I like to talk to people. It was for a leaky air conditioner and I told them not to bother if they were going to send out the same people they sent before. They couldn't fix it the last time and I had the same problem happen in another unit. Those people didn’t know how to fix anything. So, AHS sent somebody else out.
I had another air conditioning company troubleshoot before I called AHS and when the contractor came, I told him what the other company found and he fixed it. The contractor knew what I was talking about. This guy was fine, but the times before that, I've had to have them go out two or three times. The contractors couldn’t get it right the first time or they were not knowledgeable enough to have been doing it. My girlfriend had the same problem. Also, the waiting time on the phone is ridiculous. It seems to be an hour-long wait whenever you call. Nevertheless, since the air conditioner was repaired, it has been working well and I haven't had a problem.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the pool pump to get fixed. I did it online and navigating the website was totally easy. The contractors came out relatively fast this time compared before when it took them about a week because everyone was opening their pools at that time. When contractors come out, I try to make it as easy as possible for them to know what they need and come out with it so that everything could be knocked down in one day. For example, I take photos of the pump model and let them know the trouble that I’m experiencing. If I don't do that, it can add another visit, and if the nanny is not at home or I am unable to check off work, then it really is an inconvenience.
I have never run into any issues with the vendors, but it has been really obnoxious when the process is turned back over to American Home Shield. There is a breakdown in communications on every single claim that I’ve ever made between the vendor and American Home Shield, so they are left in the wings and they don’t have any answers. When I call in, I’m bounced back and forth and it is surprising. I would have to contact the vendor, but they don’t really know where it is in the process. If American Home Shield's service wasn’t so inexpensive, I definitely wouldn’t use it, but I continue to use it because others can’t beat the price and the inconvenience is worth me not having to spend $3,000 on a new AC unit.
The communication between American Home Shield and the vendor would solve the problem. I wish that they would let the customer know exactly where they stand at all points and say, "We need this part. It’s gonna be with Home Shield and someone will reach out to you,” instead of me having to call in and wait on hold and waste more time. It would be a few simple emails or even one simple email between vendor and Home Shield that could keep the customer abreast to what’s going on. Having a warranty is extremely valuable. I wouldn’t have the funds out of pocket every time if something broke, so I’d rather pay overtime and roll the dice knowing that I’m gonna pay this much each month whether I need it or not in case I need it. I always recommend that people get American Home Shield, but I let them know that it comes at a convenience cost. It’s extremely affordable, but where they essentially pay for it is on the customer service inconvenience.
Good morning Joshua,
Your feedback regarding your overall AHS experience is greatly appreciated. I am pleased to hear about the cost effectiveness it has provided. However, I understand your concerns regarding customer updates and timely service. I would be glad to speak with you to address your concerns.

I had a plumbing issue where there was a clog. The house was smelly and water was not going where it needed to go. K&S came out. In fact, I have always asked for them if they were available. They're wonderful and I really like them. They're on time when calling and professional. Plus they don't leave a mess. They had to break the repair up into two parts because they had to have different equipment. But they resolved the issue.
On the other hand, I have an issue with my dryer that has never been resolved. The dryer does not cut off. It just runs. So I can't turn it on and walk off. It runs for six hours while I'm at work. It's been like that for a very long time and they never followed up. I tried to call the contractor but he never returned the call. Then when I called American Home Shield about it, they couldn't get in touch with him. So they sent the job to another vendor and I had to pay another fee. When the contractor came out, they had to order the part and it took months. When I said it wouldn't really take that long to get the part, the office manager called and apologized. She said it was her fault. Then when they came out and put the part in, the dryer only worked for a day.
I also wish everything wasn't so online with American Home Shield. I understand it's a convenience thing but some things aren't as straightforward as the format and you do need to speak to a representative to get clarification on things. But when you call, the wait times are unbearable. Once you finally get a person, the claims process over the phone is not difficult. But I've sat on hold for 45 minutes before. As far as that is concerned, it's not good service. I also work the same schedule so it's hard for me to call and sit on hold. For the dryer claim, I got someone who didn't speak English very well. I could understand her but when I explained the situation, unfortunately, there was a language barrier. She didn't understand what I was saying but I didn't want to be rude and tell her she didn't know what she was talking about. That was who Home Shield decided to hire as their customer service rep though, so that was who I had to deal with.
We had a conference call with the vendor and it turned into a slight argument with the office manager. I said that I was not saying I didn't want them to come out and fix the dryer. I was asking what I was going to be charged for if the dryer would not be repaired. But she was so busy trying to defend her company and everything they do that she was missing the point. She wasn't listening. She was a little unprofessional and a little bit rude. She was defending her company and I give her credit for that. But I wasn't saying anything negative about them. I just said that what they did was not repairing the dryer.
The owner ended up getting on the phone and I explained to him what was going on. With Home Shield on the phone, the lady asked if they could send the technicians back out. But I had told her that several times. It was a recorded call and they could have listened to it. I was told that Home Shield would follow up but I have yet to hear from them. At this point, it's been two months. When I tried to call, I left the phone on speaker and after an hour, I hung up. I've also been told that I had waited too long to get this resolved. But I didn't. The company that initiated the repair took too long. They said it was because I didn't call but I had.
The warranty is good but customers should be prepared for a few hurdles in dealing with a few things. They should also ask a lot of questions and get clarification on what's covered and what's not because there are little loopholes. Everything else has been decent and overall, I'm 80% satisfied with everything Home Shield has to offer.

I called the number that I had handy when the air conditioner stopped coming on. It would just set in the same place and the temperature inside the house rose from 76, where we kept it, to 83. The same company that installed the air conditioner came out and Chris was excellent. After being here for about two minutes, he called me over to the unit and showed me what the problem was. It wasn't anything that anybody could have foreseen but he understood what it was. Then it took him another 20 minutes to actually fix it.

However, they couldn’t replace the parts. AHS got a second opinion and it was the same opinion. So they went back to Lee’s to get a whole new unit. They said we had to pay $647 for some extra sheet metal work and duct work but they used the old sheet metal and duct work. But after they got the job done, I was pleased with it and I just went ahead and paid the $647.
It took 18 to 20 days to put the new unit in from the time that I submitted the claim which was not that bad because it's in the middle of a hot season and they're busy. Lee’s was great and the other one out of Cherryvale, Kansas was good too. The guy that put the unit in did a really good job. The AC motor froze up and it wasn’t producing any air. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and their rep was great. I called on a Wednesday but the tech from Johnson’s Heating and Cooling didn’t get out until that Monday. So I was stuck in the midst of a heat wave with no air and I wasn’t happy with that. The problem was that once AHS assign somebody, then that is it for them. Johnson’s did very well but they had to make a couple of trips because they couldn’t do anything when the motor was frozen. So that gave me another two days without any air.
Johnson’s told me that if a part was needed, AHS would order the part. Then the part would go to AHS who would then ship it to the contractor then the contractor would come out and replace the part. I thought that was a whole of lot middleman which wasn't needed. The tech also told me that American Home Shield never ordered the part but he had the part on-hand. So, he took a motor that he had in his shop, brought it out to me, and put it on. Then he took the blade off of the motor that he had and put my blade on his motor. He just came out yesterday to finally fix it and finish it up. So American Home Shield never did anything about it because all they did was send the guy out. And AHS never ordered the part because that it would take two to three weeks to get.
It was quite a process and I was not a very happy camper. I'm even thinking if I could charge American Home Shield for a fan that I had to go out and buy because I had to, so I could have some coolness in my house over those weeks. I've never had this much of a problem with American Home Shield before at what they do. I like their services, but they call the next available tech and that tech may get to me in three to four days. It is a good thing that I'm in good health because if I was in poor health with a breathing problem, I would have been stuck.

I called Home Shield and told the rep that I don't want that plumbing company to come to my house and I wanted somebody else. The rep told me that I have to put in a new claim for that. But they haven't even came to the house. The rep was rude and he also said the if they put in for another one, then I have to pay another $75. Why do I have to pay another $75 when they haven't even set foot here yet? But I ended up having these people come in my house.
I didn't like the way the guy came in. He just said that they didn't do this and Home Shield was not gonna pay for it. Then he gave me his card if I wanted to do something on the side. When I called back Home Shield later and talked to another lady, she said it was not true. They could have assigned us to another person because the contractor haven't been to our house yet. I ended up having to hire another person to come and do my air condition, and go on with another plumber, still through American Home Shield. But I ended up paying another $75 because I just didn't want those people back in my house.

I had cold water coming out of my shower so I called American Home Shield to file a claim for it. They answered my questions, were professional and were able to send a contractor the same day which was quick. However, there are some assumptions consumers make that aren't fair to the vendor like when I thought that all was going to be covered by my policy but it cost me $750 to have my water heater replaced with my insurance policy, which was distinctly shocking.
The fee included the first visit, a permit, $100 for a permit and some amount for the visit, several $100 for the plumbing that connects the hot water heater to the water source both in and out and the cost of the pan. Then, there were some additional plumbing that was required to reinstall the new heater. There was also cost because my water softener had to be detached and reattached. I have an insurance policy that I pay every month. If I didn’t have one, I could’ve gotten the water heater replaced and installed for less than $750. All of the contractors sent out by AHS were good, except for the refrigerator company which was awful.
My claim for the refrigerator was a nightmare and it was a bit drawn out. I have a waterline to my ice maker that was still connected to my old fridge. The refrigerator company dropped off the new fridge, but they wouldn't touch the waterline and left. We were without a refrigerator for nearly four months and that was a bit rough. We had a stoppage in our plumbing system that we needed taken care of. I submitted a claim with AHS online and had a pretty good experience, considering it was 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. Before, we had an issue where we filed a claim and American Home Shield hired somebody to do it. But when I spoke to the company that they hired, that company told me that they weren’t able to take care of our issue. And for some reason, every time that issue comes up, they were the ones that get hired. So we called American Home Shield back and they hired somebody new for the account. Then that person came out and they were here within a day or two to fix the problem.
But at the time, we were charged a $75 fee for both companies. I spoke to American Home Shield and they told us that they would take care of the issue. But there were no active warranties in our system, however, it is still showing that we have a $75 fee past due. When I spoke to the gentleman about the issue, he said that sometimes, it does take some time. We’ve had a few other issues in the home that we’ve dealt with them and everything has been really good. The contractors that AHS sent out were really knowledgeable, got the job done, and weren’t here very long. Things have been working really good since the repair, too. I’d tell others to go for AHS.

I call in to file claims with American Home Shield and the people are very friendly. However, sometimes, I get to do one of those callback things, but when they call back, we get disconnected, so it doesn't work really well. However, when I submitted the claims, the appliance guys came out right away and the techs were all very professional and very nice.
The ice maker of our Samsung refrigerator freezes up and the water drips from the bottom of it. At first, the bottom was clipped in there the way it was manufactured, so the techs came in and replaced the whole bottom of the ice thing. Then, they came in and replaced the clip with a screw and did what they said Samsung told them to do which was to glue stuff in place. But nothing has changed and it’s still not working that’s why they’ve got to call in. I got an email that Economy Appliance, Heat and Air was picked to do the job, but they still haven’t shown up yet, although they have been here three times before.
They’ve also been out for my air conditioning ducts which were leaking water out of them. The tech was here and he turned on some vents that lose air from one room to another and he said that was the problem. Everything was sealed correctly and three hours later, everything worked. They had a guy call me from their company and tried to sell me more insulation, but I don’t really think I needed it.
American Home Shield is doing the best they can. The guys on the refrigerator explained that Samsung has this problem with the refrigerator, but they won’t admit the particular one I’ve got. This is an expensive refrigerator. It’s almost $3,000 for a refrigerator so somebody ought to fix it. Nonetheless, I recommend American Home Shield. As a matter fact, we’re thinking about putting our house on the market and the realtors have asked me what we wanted to do. I said, “We want to put a house in America and we would use American Home Shield for a piece of the warranty for the next.”

I have had my contract since 2015. I submitted my request for ice maker repair on 7/12/18. I have attempted to contact the repair contractor several time, left voice messages with no return contact. I contacted American Home Shield several times about my concerns. After calling and being placed on hold for up to 45 minutes on one occasion I called on 8/29/18 and spoke with supervisor Danica who informed me my service fee would be refunded however I would be required to continue the repair with this contractor.
I requested to be transferred to another contractor in lieu of a refund. Danica informed me I would not be able to use another contractor. I agreed to accept the refund provided the service would be scheduled and completed. Danica assured me I would be contacted within 24 hours to schedule the repair. As of 6:58 pm on 9/1/2018 I am on hold again with American Home Shield and being told I can not speak with a supervisor because they are helping other people. My issue continues to be overlooked by this company.
Good morning Pamela,
I understand your concerns with your most recent service experience to have your ice maker repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the repairs completed and discuss your options of a CIL or different contractor.

First, let me say that we have been with this company for 6 years. We had taken all that we could take from the lack of response. The customer service call center with American Home Shield is one of the worst I have ever dealt with. No one ever answers the phone and you on hold for 30 mins each time you call them and then you are disconnected and have to start the process all over again. If you read the reviews, I am sure we are not the only customer stating these facts. I was even on hold for 30 mins to cancel our warranty and still have not received email confirmation that this has taken place. We all know, that you buy a Home Warranty because we need them to be there when you need them... Finally after 6 yrs we got smarter and we have now moved on to one that is.
Good morning M Gatlin,
I understand your concerns with your most recent AHS experience and the hold time to speak with a customer service representative. I'd be glad to speak with you regarding the cancellation of your warranty and resolve any remaining issues.

We moved into a home June 29 with a working dishwasher. We even have our inspection report stating that the dishwasher was working. At the end of July the dishwasher was not properly cleaning the dishes and had a bad odor. We called and had someone out here a few days later. The repairman said our dishwasher was not worth the cost to fix and the fridge needed new parts. After a week I called A.H.S for a status. After hours in the phone they told me the tech didn’t send in his report. They would call on it and call me back.
After 2 days no phone call so I called back and got the runaround. It took until August 14 when they said they had the report and that they ordered the fridge parts and sent the dishwasher to authorization department. They would call me within 24 hours. Today is September 1 and no one has called us. So I call today and after the runaround and over an hour in the phone they said our dishwasher was denied because it was a pre existing condition. I explained that it worked when we moved in and I had the inspection report stating it was in working condition. The authorization department said they’d look into it and call the contractor and call me back... so the waiting game again while I have a smelly, inoperable dishwasher. To be continued...
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online when the compressor of our AC stopped working and another claim with the other unit when there was an issue with the blower motor that circulates the air. I was contacted by the air conditioning company saying that they would be coming out and servicing the problem. The contractor that recently came did great. He went above and beyond because the air conditioner wasn’t blowing and the part got there late on Friday. He came on Saturday and replaced the part. That was stand up and we appreciated that.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield when the air conditioner was not blowing cold air and the technician from United Air Temp did the job quickly. He was professional and he was there on time. He wore booties like he should and came in the house to check everything. He gave me a price and told me what was wrong as well as what he had to do to fix it. I have recommended American Home Shield to other people. I never had any issue, they came and followed through.

My air conditioning wasn't cooling. I called an American Home Shield representative and in about a week, a contractor came and gave good service. They told me though that there was something they have to do that they haven't completed yet. However, they haven't come back since then. So, I called AHS back to report it but they didn't know that this was what the contractor said. Nevertheless, everything with the AC is working well now.

The capacitor, the fan and the motor in our air conditioner went out, and it was getting hotter in the house. The temperature console inside the house had it showing that it worked but there were two different temperatures on there -- the one that we set and the one where it was actually at. So, I went out and checked what was going on, and I heard a sound. My wife then called and submitted the claim. Once we let American Home Shield know what was going on, they got somebody out as quick as they could. The contractor's professionalism was flawless. Everything about the service went as smooth as it should've gone. It is a veteran's home that they came out to, so that is much appreciated. Everything has been working great since the repair. I would definitely recommend them.

I submitted a claim with AHS for my refrigerator over the phone and it was easy. It's 12 years old. It’s a Maytag, has a big freezer on the bottom and has always made a lot of noise. The contractor they sent was great. He checked it all out and found a lot of dirt underneath that I didn’t know was there. I tore it apart and cleaned it, inside and out. He said that was all it was to it, but he had to come back three more times. The rollers on the bottom froze solid and I couldn’t get the door open. He greased that down really well. Somehow he had gotten frost in there and it froze solid. I wasn’t sure that’s what it was so I didn’t try to force it. Nevertheless, he came back and got it working. It seems to be all right now. Thus far, I’ve been satisfied with American Home Shield.

There was an issue with the plumbing when we bought the house and it was supposed to be fixed but it started leaking again. We had to have the plumber come out and take care of it so my husband submitted a claim online. The process went really good and the plumber came out quick. The repair work was great quality and I haven’t had any problems with it for 2 days now. However, we currently have another claim for our air conditioning unit and we haven’t heard anything back from American Home Shield. This has been going on for 2 days now and it’s a bit of a struggle because it’s 88 degrees in my house and we have small children. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield. Everything has been positive so far and all our issues were taken care of responsibly.

I have an upstairs and a downstairs AC units. We turned them on this summer and both of them turned on but they were blowing hot air so I called American Home Shield. They sent Temple out and the guy turned on one unit. The upstairs one was not working but the downstairs one was blowing cold air. I asked how does it blow cold air sometimes and not the other and the guy wasn’t quite sure. He was maybe doubting the fact that it ever stopped blowing cold air because it seemed to be an odd issue. He said that they usually work or they don’t work. He was very nice about it and I asked for his card. He fixed the unit upstairs and it has worked ever since.
The downstairs unit didn’t work again. I called him and he said that it was weird. He told me I had to go through American Home Shield and they will send me a thing and take care of me because it was within a certain amount of days. It was a recall and once I put it in the system, he will be able to come out. So, I went through American Home Shield and I talked to a gal. Then, the guy called and told me he got the paperwork and he will come out on Monday. He has been fantastic and I couldn’t be more pleased with Temple.
On the other hand, my mom also has American Home Shield on her house. I help her out with her place and I also put an AC claim. But I couldn’t be less pleased with the goofballs that came out to look at hers. The guy was rude and didn’t wanna talk to me. The guy just wanted to get in and get out as quick as possible and told us that American Home Shield will call us and he said bye.
AHS called me to tell me that they denied the claim because there was water damage with the AC unit. I told them that I forced the guy who came here to tell me what was wrong and he said that the condenser was leaking and it was low on refrigerant. I told them that if the unit is 15 years old, I can count on one hand how many inches of rain it has seen in Southern California. Plus, AC units are built to withstand rain because people all over the country who have them get a lot more rain than I do. But American Home Shield’s rep wouldn’t explain to me anything else other than saying there was water damage and he wanted to get off the phone with me.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online because my AC wasn't cooling down and I got a call back immediately from the contractor they hired. The contractor said that they would be up the next morning to take a look at it. They were amazing and did a phenomenal job. They said that the cooling coil had a leak in it and that the Freon couldn't be replaced because my old contractor had put a different Freon in it. I told them I would get back with them the next day and let them know if I wanted my whole unit replaced. They got me on the schedule the next day. I said to not replace my whole unit and then American Home Shield paid for the coil replacement which was a little over $1,000. I would tell a friend that AHS would be a good deal for them.

While I had a good experience submitting a claim for my refrigerator to American Home Shield, it was a long process. The reps I spoke with were considerate, thoughtful, and knowledgeable and the contractor they sent was good. He said the ice machine was unrepairable so AHS sent him again. He called AHS and told them it was unrepairable. And so the rep offered either to get the one that she wanted or I could get one myself, and they'd reimburse. I chose to get one myself, and AHS reimbursed me $1,671. In closing, the people at AHS are friendly and nice. They are also honest and helpful.

They changed the motor but it didn't work and now, it stopped working again. I called AHS and they said they would call me but I have not had a call from them.
I've used almost all the warranties and AHS is the best one in the US right now. The problem is, sometimes, it's hard to get the contractor in time. We have to wait. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim when we had a problem with our AC and the reps did well. The contractor, A-US Air Conditioning of Texas, which has done repairs on our AC before came out and I paid the deductible. The response of AHS to our claim submissions has been fine so far, but if we file a claim during a busy time, it's gonna take a while for a technician to come out.
With air conditioning, it's the same thing as with a car where you gotta keep your oil changed and the services done. I get a tune-up for my AC on my own and I contact and use A-US Air for that. If something goes out with our AC, A-US Air calls AHS and sees if the repair is covered, then they go from there. AHS's monthly payments and the deductible go up every year, though, and they could cover some more items with their warranty. But generally, I'm good with the contractors sent by AHS.

Water was leaking from my faucet in the kitchen and something had fallen from underneath the sink. When I would turn the faucet on, the water would just gather around. I called in to submit a claim to AHS and the rep was good. I did everything when I was waiting for Sam’s Club to open on a Sunday morning, and I was sitting in my car parked and had a conversation with her. She was thorough. The contractors called me Tuesday and the tech that came was a very polite young man. He told me exactly what he needed to do and he said it was simple. He switched out my faucet set to a commercial faucet set that he had that they use so he wasn’t here very long.
However, I gave him a call back and told him that once I turned my faucet on and then turned it off, there was a drip. He explained that it's just like when you take a shower. Sometimes when you turn your shower off, you may have a drip after. He was trying to understand what kind of drip I had. My thing was that there was no drip with the last faucet I had. He told me this faucet was a different kind because this one sprays out. He explained it to me, so I was satisfied.
AHS is a good company. I've been with them for a long time and I had an issue with my payments so I went with another company. I had paid them for almost a year but this company cannot touch the kinds of service that AHS does. They may tout that they do this, and they will repair this, but they do not so I immediately went back to AHS. I'm so glad that I did.

I’ve had several claims with American Home Shield. I bought this place in March and back then I had an A/C problem and a plumbing problem. While I’ve been really happy with American Home Shield, they keep sending me something on my email saying I’m delinquent on a $75 co-pay which is not true. They have talked to me about five times and it should have been taken off. It was an electrical problem, but in actuality, when the tech got there, he said that it was a plumbing problem and that it wasn’t his problem at all. I called AHS and they said that they were gonna waive the $75 and get a plumber out. The plumber came and fixed it.
I submit the claims over the phone and the interactions I have had with the reps have been good, although they need to follow through to every department so I don’t keep getting this delinquent email. The contractors have been fine. Before, they seemed a little seedy, but lately, the guys that have been coming have been great. AHS has been great and it has saved me money even though I’m paying $75 every month. When there’s a problem, I call them. I also had an air conditioner problem and they said they would get back with me within four hours, but they did not. When I called them the next day, they told me to get my person out. They were really accommodating. I asked if I had to pay out of network and they said yes, but they will reimburse me, and they did. They are a little better than they used to be and they are really trying. I tell people all the time to get them.

There was a request for repair of some issues from the inspection in the sale of the home. The realtors handled the claim submission with American Home Shield and the contractors came out and did the repair. The plumber was nice and did a good job. The plumbing service was great and the plumbing issue was taken care of, but the AC repair wasn't as pleasant. The contractor that came out to work on the AC didn't do a thorough job. I explained to AHS that when they send a contractor out to do a job, I would think that they would totally inspect their work afterwards, but the AC company didn't do that. They just came in, put in a capacitor, and left. They didn't go up into the attic, run the AC and turn it off, and inspect to make sure that everything was fine. I turned the AC off that night at 7:30 and by 9:00 ice had built up. This caused a leak in the ceiling that required some work and it was a mess, but the AC didn't end up getting fully repaired.
There were some negotiations done in escrow and the house sale has been done and closed. I'm not the owner of that house anymore and I don't have any more ties to it, but I wasn't happy with the way the AC repair went. Nevertheless, I like AHS and I would recommend them. I've been happy with them in the year that I've had them. In fact, the tech that came to work on the dishwasher was fine. I just moved to a new home and I need to get a home warranty here quickly, so it's likely that I'll end up going with AHS again.

We moved into a new house and the pot filler that was over the stove had a bunch of corrosion on it. The home inspector never told us about that and we never noticed it until we tried to use our pot filler and it leaked all over the place. So we called American Home Shield and asked them if they could fix it because we didn’t wanna have a leak every time we tried to use our pot filler. The guy I spoke with said that it was a preexisting condition, so they didn’t cover it. But everything that we bought our Home Shield policy to fix was preexisting. If we didn’t see it, we wouldn’t have thought it was broken, so it was pre-existing. In the end, we were disappointed that our pot filler wouldn’t get repaired.
Other than that, the locksmith that AHS sent out for our other claim was a good guy. I liked him because he was a copay and it seemed like it was a better deal. AHS also had a refrigerator guy out and he gave us a good assessment, though it was for an old refrigerator, so we didn't have it fixed. Generally speaking, I’m a bit on the fence if AHS is worth the money because some of the stuff we hoped to get fixed didn't get fixed. While we had good experiences with some other stuff, we also paid $800 for other ones. All in all, we got AHS because we’re protecting ourselves from something catastrophic like a huge dishwasher failure, but we’re also trying to protect ourselves from catastrophic costs and the little nickel-and-dime thing with them didn’t seem like it was that great of a deal.

They quoted us the price for the package, and we did the upgrade with the systems, and we paid the difference. They said it came with two clickers, the keypad, the keyless entry and then they took it all back. The guy said that we only get one clicker. I had some AC issues in my home and we had to go to another vendor because the vendor that American Home Shield originally recommended said they had corrected the issue but we had the same issue again. When the first vendor came out on a Friday, they took the information to order a part. But they failed to put in the order immediately, so we were without AC the whole weekend. When we followed up on the following Tuesday, we found out that the paperwork hadn’t been put in. It was unfair to us because we were thinking that the part was ordered and that we were gonna have the part and it would be ready for install by that Monday as they stated. It was a horrible experience, and AHS recommended another vendor at some point.
We didn’t get any kind of call back to tell us anything differently. Then we had to research on our own, called AHS and come to find out that the order was not put in. We went back and forth, and the vendor finally realized that they did not order the part. It fell through the crack, and had we not called, we would have still been waiting on it.
We've had AHS for about four years now and out of all the time that we have utilized their services, it went pretty good.
