We bought a house and got us a AHS home warranty. As they advertise the following: It's a one-year service agreement that covers the repair or replacement of many major home system components and appliances that typically break down over time due to normal wear and tear, gain confidence and comfort knowing that your hard-earned investment is covered by an industry leader – No, not covered, reduce stress from potential, undetectable pre-existing conditions (like failures due to lack of maintenance and mismatched systems) they're covered! Sounds good right? Well guess what? We had some plumbing issues that all fell under above but AHS didn't want to cover anything. We had a system of mismatched old clogged up pipes that resulted into hot water delay (anywhere in the house) of 5 minutes and the water was not clear.
In short we had failure due to: Lack of maintenance, rust & corrosion, sediment, mismatched systems, improper installations, repairs or modifications. None of this came up in our inspection report so they must have been undetectable pre-existing conditions. We had 3 independent plumbers coming over and they all recommended a full repiping as the solution. But AHS didn't agree. Despite all being crystal clear to me, AHS says they won't pay for re-piping as it's not a failure and re-piping would be just an upgrade. I don't see why not getting hot water in a shower for 5 minutes and brown water is not a failure. And that replacing the improper pipeline that's a ticking time bomb anyways being an upgrade vs being necessary and actually avoiding much larger costs for AHS. Anyway, I felt I had the perfect warranty for our exact issue, but turns out I got fooled and they were no help whatsoever.
Good morning van Lierop,
I understand your concerns with your most recent service claim and the denial to have the plumbing repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the repairs that need to be completed.

I've been paying premiums to American Home Shield for years, appreciating the security of knowing that I have someone to call for the big problems that sometimes arise as a homeowner. This week my water heater gave out. At 12 years, it had reached the end of its expected life, so I thought, "no problem, I'm covered". I placed the call to AHS, and they swiftly responded by sending a "technician" out to evaluate my situation.
The technician, Sam, confirmed what I told them on the phone, that the heater was old, corroded, and leaking. There would need to be a full replacement. Sam left at 11am, telling us that we would be getting a call from AHS about the next step, and accepting his $75 service fee. The call came at 8:21pm while I was out to dinner with my wife, when I tried to call back, I had missed the 9pm cut-off. But then I listened to the message:
"Hey this is David with your Home Warranty Company. I'm calling on a recorded line to let you know that I spoke with Sam with Aaron's plumbing regarding your water heater. He stated that the water heater is leaking water and that the tank is rusted. So the cause of failure is normal wear and tear and we need to replace the water heater. So we are replacing the water heater. We are covered for the water heater, the labor [strange pause in the message]... Um, a $250 "code upgrade" and... the permit. However there is some modifications in your contract that are not covered and they are a power [unintelligible] modification at $300 hot 'n cold modification at $149 temperature and pressure modification at $149 and that is not covered per section D4B and the estimated cost is $598 for you. If you have any questions regarding this just give us a call back at 877-489-8320. Thank you and have a wonderful day."
That's right, a company that I have paid $31.75 to every month for years wants to charge me $598 for a new water heater. For reference, the national average for a new 40-50 gallon tank water heater (I only need a 40 gal) installed is $889. If I had just put that money into a savings account, I could have several new water heaters installed. There is absolutely nothing remarkable or unusual about this job, but they have the audacity to make up a string of bogus "not covered" items which they say are not covered under section D4B of the contract.
What on earth is this "power modification" (they're just going to plug it in) and the "hot 'n cold" modification... I just want the hot thank you. This is the most vile business experience I've had in a good while, and I hope that this brief rant steers other would-be customers away from doing business with the criminals at American Home Shield.
Good morning Joshua,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience to have to the water heater replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the non covered cost for modifications.

My air conditioning's condenser fan motor went out. I called American Home Shield for a claim and they got a contractor out in 2 days. The contractors who came were from the same company that also had one of their contractors work on my other air conditioner a year or so ago. All of those contractors were very qualified and really good. Since the repair, everything’s been fine as well. I’m quite comfortable having the American Home Shield warranty and my experience has been very good.

AllSet was the appliance contractor that American Home Shield sent and they did a great job. But they had to order parts and the repair was done a month afterwards. Still, they were polite, on time and courteous. On the other hand, the HVAC guys sucked. They were on time and initially, I thought the first guy was a good guy. He was courteous. He agreed that there was a leak but all of a sudden, he threw in the report that it was all corroded. But the coil was new two years ago. It’s not corroded. It was a warranty issue and now, it’s leaking but they won't do anything about it. The contractor was playing games and I didn’t like that. I wanted another person to come out and American Home Shield did send out a second guy. But when I told him to check for a leak, he said that he didn’t have a leak detector. It was like the B leagues of a contractor. He was not even qualified.
The experience was almost like talking to an underwriter who’s saying that they’re not gonna be able to cover something and that they don’t do this or that. There’s a leak on the AC. Even the first guy said so. But they are American Home Shield’s go-to people. So he had to find something faulty that would not be covered. I had to call my own HVAC guy because I can’t even keep my air conditioning below 83 right now. I was very unhappy with American Home Shield. I looked at some of the comments about American Home Shield and some of the people that they picked for their vendors. One of them was the HVAC company and as far as my liking of that, 50-50 would be a great average if it was in baseball, but not in business.
Hello, Carl. I am sorry to hear that you had those issues with your A/C service. A Social Media Specialist will contact you directly to discuss your service concerns.

Having the American Home Shield warranty has been good so far and it saves a lot of money. I would recommend it too. I like the user-friendliness of the AHS website and it is easy to navigate it especially when submitting a claim. I filed a claim for my dryer that was squeaking at first then it stopped working altogether. Big Kountry Appliance Repair was the assigned contractor and they took a couple of days to come out as they were busy. When their guy came out, he didn’t call me to talk to me at all and I did not like that. I was not home but my mom was there and so he was able to fix the issue. However, my mom didn’t tell him about the other issues. So, while the dryer is working now, it's still squeaking. I wasn’t happy with the contractor person but American Home Shield is very efficient.

I have an American Home Shield warranty for two different properties. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for an air conditioning unit at this house and that was a fine experience. Usually, I submitted the claims online via phone. The contractors that have come out have been fine. As a matter of fact, I have not had someone that was not friendly or was not professional.
The repairs have made things run smoother. But I always wish there was a better turnaround time from when a ticket is entered to when service is rendered. For instance, I would always precaution somebody with respect to how things work with HVAC systems and the turnaround time for that service. But other than that, I’m happy and satisfied with the service of AHS. Getting a warranty with them is completely worth it if you have a home situation where you expect that you’re gonna have repairs that are either outside of what you can manage or that you may not have the time to manage.

The ice maker quit and so American Home Shield was called and a local company was asked for. The contractor called, made an appointment, looked at the ice maker, came out and then fixed it. The young technician was very nice and since the repair, the ice maker has been working like a charm. The people at AHS are professional and knowledgeable.

I'm very happy that I have American Home Shield. I woke up one morning and smelled smoke but I couldn't tell where it was coming from. I was looking at my neighbor on one side and then on the other side. But I didn't see any fire on their homes and thought maybe it was in mine. I felt very scared 'cause I could smell a lot of wiring that was burning. I called the fire department and they came in and said it was my refrigerator. They disconnected the fridge, told me not to touch it and advised me to call my warranty. The tech came out and did an inspection. He told us what we needed to do by the time the part will come in and once it did, we had had no problems.
This is the second time the refrigerator has gone something on us, but it's a very cold refrigerator. The tech told me that they might come and fix it a few times but once the compressor goes out, then it will be time for me to replace the refrigerator. Overall, AHS has been very good and I will recommend them to anybody who can afford the 49.95 payment.

There was a crack in the commode and when we called American Home Shield to submit a claim, the process was easy. Then they sent someone out and he said that it has to have a new toilet. But American Home Shield informed us that it wasn't covered, so I was a little bit upset that we paid a service charge when they weren't gonna cover it in the first place. I told them on the phone what was wrong and they should've told me then that they couldn't cover that.
And now, I had to pay the plumber and the service charge. So AHS charged me 75 bucks and I could've saved that money by just calling a plumber. Other than that, at winter time, the heat pump would kick off but the air was still blowing cold air. I submitted a claim with AHS and things went smoothly. Everything was perfect about that claim. But I'm reluctant to call again because of that one incident with the commode and I need to look up what they cover before I call.

American Home Shield took a week to get Appliance Pros out to us for the icemaker of our fridge that didn't work. They were excellent and very professional. They replaced different pieces of the icemaker but it still didn't work. So now, we have to go buy a new fridge and I like that option. Having the warranty has been very valuable. I'm a real-estate agent and I've also let other people know that American Home Shield really takes care of their customers. I've recommended them recently to two people who got them now as well.

Been a customer of AHS for many years. Per my contract refrigerator and all components are covered. Icemaker in freezer quit working. I verified with AHS that this was covered before arranging for repair, they said it was. After 3 repair attempts icemaker still broken, and now makes extremely loud noise, that drowns out all other noise in kitchen. Contract says they will repair, or replace if not repairable. During 4th call to AHS spoke to a very unpleasant man who refused to give his name, who refused to do anything more to repair or replace our refrigerator or ice maker. Refrigerator is now unusable due to crazy loud noise that only started after their second repair attempt. So much for repair or replace. Avoid this company, they're a rip off.

Opened my first claim x my dishwasher on 9/24, they diagnosed on 9/26. AHS trying to collect the $100 deductible so I assumed they will fix my dishwasher. I called them and they told me the repair has been denied but they still want to collect the $100. This people lies to take advantage of you, you trust their reps. When you call to sign up with them they answer right away, but when you press the button to speak to a rep. to open a claim or regarding the status of a claim they put you on hold for at least 28 minutes, that was my experience.

I decided to buy a 1 year home warranty policy from American Home Shield. I decided to not renew after my current contract expired. AHS sent me a contract (that I didn't agree to, nor ask for) agreement for the succeeding year. I made multiple phone calls to cancel this contract, and could never reach anyone. After several attempts and 45+ minute of waiting on hold, I finally contacted someone, who then told me that their network was down and they would call me back ASAP. 1 week later and nobody has returned my phone call and I continue to reach out to them and can never get in contact. I am always placed on hold for no less than 30 minutes before I hang up because I don't have all day to sit by the phone. Ridiculous! Do not do business with these people if you want good customer service.

We purchased our warranty with AHS almost a year ago. We have never missed a monthly payment. We filed a claim for our upstairs HVAC unit on Thursday, September 20th, which is covered per our contract with AHS. We received a call on the morning of Friday, September 21st matching us with an HVAC company that was 45 minutes from our home in Raleigh. Their first available appointment was the following Monday afternoon. I expressed my preference for a company that could come out sooner, as I have two small children. The forecast predicted temperatures in the mid-high 80s for the following days, but took the appointment so that I was sure to have on while explaining to the HVAC provider that I would be calling AHS to hopefully get matched with a company that could come out sooner.
I called all day on Friday September 21st, only to be told to "call back in an hour", as AHS' system "was down" or "being upgraded". I finally got through at 6 pm on the 21st. I was informed we did not meet "the criteria" for expedited service (which is apparently at AHS' sole discretion), and there was nothing to be done, and there was "no company in Raleigh to match me with". So we waited until Monday the 24th. The HVAC technician came out at 10:00 AM. He quickly completed his assessment, told me we needed a new evaporative coil and more refrigerant, informed me he would file the information with AHS immediately, and we would hear back within 24 hours.
I waited until approximately 26 hours had passed, without hearing from AHS, and called them on Tuesday, September 25th. After being put on hold several times, I was informed it could be "up to 48 hours" before they even reviewed the HVAC technician's recommendation. I explained to them I was told 24 hours, and that nowhere in my contract did it give them 48 hours. After much pleading, I was finally called back a few hours after that, and was informed they were approving the work, but my portion would be $1380. Not having expected that (as that is the purpose of paying monthly for a warranty), I asked to briefly call my husband to confirm we were ok with moving forward. I did so, then immediately tried to call back. It took until almost 10 pm that night to get someone.
I told them we wanted to proceed, but was informed I was to go through the HVAC company to schedule the repair. They were closed by this point, so I had to call them on Wednesday, October 26th, which I did that morning. When I called, I was informed they hadn't received authorization from AHS yet. I was finally able to get that, and was informed by the HVAC company they would have to see if the evaporative coil was in stock, or if not, they would have to order it, and if they did, it would hopefully be in on Friday the 28th, and they would call me to schedule the repair. I waited until Friday, the 28th, and having heard nothing, called the HVAC company to check in on the status of the part.
When I called, they told me they had JUST received authorization from AHS, and would NOW check on the part or order it. I was informed that it was NOT in stock, and it would have to be ordered, and would take approximately a week to arrive, and it was then ANOTHER week before they had an available appointment (meaning the first available time to fix our HVAC would be Friday, October 12th, three weeks and one day after we originally filed our service request). I have explained numerous times to both AHS and the HVAC company that we have small children who are having to sleep in the heat, to no avail. I have requested another company, to no avail.
I was informed I have no option but to wait until October 12th, or accept the cash out which is far, far less than the retail value I would have to pay for the part if I engaged a private company at this point. I was also informed AHS could not get the part any sooner, because it was a Trane unit and therefore specialty (which makes no sense, as Trane is one of the most common HVAC units). At this point, it will be over THREE WEEKS from our original service request until the HVAC unit is fixed. I will not be renewing our contract with AHS, and will also not be recommending them to any friends or family in the future.

On the plus side, pricing and coverage for the warranty service is reasonable. On the minus side, it is absolutely impossible to have a voice conversation with the company (unless it is with the sales department). I contacted their toll-free line 4 times, each time I was disconnected in the middle of the call. I would call back and have to explain the issue all over again. After the 4th time, I decided to call a local number only to be told that they were the sales department and I would have to call the toll-free line which is, as most of them, out of the country. Requesting service online isn't any better. The request went through fine, the vendor, Miller Pools near Austin, TX, called saying they would provide service in 2 days. 2 days goes by, no service. I called them twice, only getting voicemail with no callback. Do yourself a favor, choose another home warranty company.

My AC went out a few days ago (Sept 24) so I requested a service over the phone from AHS. The next day a contracted AC repair company contacted me to schedule an appointment however they didn't have any openings until October 24. I didn't want to sweat it out for the next 30+ days so I called AHS. This is the frustrating part, AHS doesn't let you talk to real people to explain your problems. Their phone system is almost completely automated. We selected the finance department and finally got a real person, but that person just put us on hold indefinitely. After about 15 minutes of waiting we gave up. We are just going to pay out of pocket instead of dealing with this company.
Good afternoon Richard,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience and the inability to speak with a customer service representative. Also, I understand that there was a delay to have your AC repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

On 9/27/18 the temperature in Ontario CA reached to 100 degrees and my air conditioning busted and called the AHS since I have a warranty with them. I was told since it's not life-threatening temperature I will have to wait for the air conditioning company's availability. The supervisor of AHS told me that they don't send the service people immediately and have to wait for at least 24 hours before we get an answer.
Updated on 10/01/2018: My air conditioning stopped working on a very hot day, called the American Home Shield since we had warranty with them. I was told it's not life threatening temperature and they sent a technician from Thermal Control Heating and Air/Riverside California. Called the tech and the AHS again... didn't hear from the AHS but got a call from the tech at Thermal Control Heating and Air and I was told they cannot come till end of the week (today's Monday) and called American Home Shield and was told that I have no other choice but to wait for the Thermal Control Heating and Air and it can take 3-5 days. REALLY!!! Left a message for Nicole ** at AHS to call me back but no response.

I noticed that we started having an issue with the AC about August or September, and that was when we got the insurance with American Home Shield. My air conditioner was leaking water all over the floor and it must have started in the back because it wasn’t something that I noticed. I filed the claim and Turf Pro came and ripped out the floors and the walls because we had molds growing in the house because of the water damage. Jazz Air also came out about six times, and every time, they said that they fixed the problem, but I still continued to have water leaking.
Even though it may have gotten a little bit better, it was leaking from multiple areas, so the problem was never fixed. By the time it got to the end of October to November, it started to get cold, so the tech told me that he couldn’t work on the AC unless there was a break in the weather and that as soon as the temperature went above 65 degrees, he would come back and continue to work on the AC. I said okay and he said that he would handle it and that I didn’t have to file another claim. I contacted him every single time there was a break in the weather, but he refused to come out. Then, without my knowledge, our claim with American Home Shield expired. I didn’t realize that that was going to happen and I thought he was still in communication with them.
I didn’t have to use the AC during the winter time, but when it came time to start using the AC again, I started having the same problem. I had everything fixed, and it cost thousands of dollars. The floors and the walls were replaced, and the mold treated. We had the leaking again and it was coming up through the floor of other areas in the house, so the problem had gotten worse. AHS had me file a new claim because they said our previous claim expired. I gave the service fee and they tried to send me Jazz Air again. I told them I didn’t want the same guy who didn’t fix the problem last time. I was going back and forth with AHS over a matter of months just to get somebody to come out.
I made an appointment with the contractor that AHS gave me but they were a no show and I couldn’t get in touch with them. I called back and AHS tried to send me Jazz Air again. I said that I didn’t want Jazz Air and that I wanted somebody that I knew was gonna fix the problem. I ended up getting back in contact with the guy that didn’t show up because I couldn’t get through AHS. I had been hung up on and had been put on hold forever, and there was no response.
At that point, I got in contact with the guy myself and he ended up being a really nice guy. He felt really bad about the situation, so he came in and said he could fix the problem. The entire inside of the unit was rusted out and needed to be replaced. He said some stuff needed to be fixed, although I paid for some of the stuff the prior year out of pocket outside of the service fees to American Home Shield. We had $600 come out of pocket $600 to fix what needed to be fixed because the modifications that had to be done to replace the parts were not covered by our warranty.
We finally came to the day when we were getting the AC fixed and American Home Shield asked who was the person that fixed our AC. AHS told the contractor to do a report and to tell them what had been done. The tech said that nothing has been done, although Jazz Air filed with them saying that they replaced the unit inside the AC and billed them for $1,000. The communication between us and American Home Shield was awful. This was an entire year and I lost money out of pocket. They said they were gonna refund us one of the service fees but ended up charging us two more for absolutely no reason. They just took it right out of our bank account, so we are in the process of getting bills refunded.
Again, I had Turf Pro come out, rip out everything, and treat for molds. I still don’t have floors or the parts of my walls replaced yet because I just got the AC fixed and it's working good. We finally don’t have leaking and the mold, but it has been almost $20,000 worth of damage to the house. From the lowest level to the highest level, I tried calling corporate of AHS, but I couldn’t get anybody to call me back. I couldn’t get through to them to file a complaint or do anything in the midst of all this stuff that was going on. When I tried to call back and we got in touch with the supervisor, they would take forever to get back to us, not call us back, or not e-mail back at all. It was constant chaos with them.
We also had a few other things go down at the same time with our water heater and our refrigerator. We are still waiting to get our refrigerator fixed right now, but I couldn’t cancel with them until I got this stuff fixed because we’ve already paid so much money into them. All this stuff is going on and they are not coming through on their end of the deal. They are still taking $50 a month out of our account for our dues, so we are paying for services that we are not receiving.
Good morning Ms. Wesley,
I understand your frustration and concerns regarding your overall experience to have the air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and address the non covered cost, root of the issue, and options for a resolution.

My AC wasn’t cooling at all. I called in a claim with AHS because I didn't want to wait online and I got an immediate response. The contractor came down and checked it. He came on time and he called ahead to tell me what time he'd be here. It was the second time that he'd been around my home and both times, he did a super job. The air conditioner was fine but the coils inside the furnace had leaks. So, he went in there and sealed them. He put some type of special sealer in there, repaired it, and everything was great. As soon as he was done with it, AHS took the fees right out of my account because my bank card goes through that stuff to pay it off every month. And when they do the charge part, they take it off the next 24 hours after they do the repair.
Other than that, my refrigerator went down not too long ago and AHS was very accessible for its repair. It was very easy to call in a claim or do it online because they give you options to do it and their responses are pretty good every time. I've been with them for a little bit now and I've always recommended anybody getting a home to have the warranty already on there.

I just moved in and American Home Shield is the first one that helped me out with getting the ball rolling. When I was buying a house, the seller said that there were a couple of burners on the stove that weren't working. I called American Home Shield and the representative said that they were gonna have somebody look at it and that they would call me to schedule an appointment. The interaction was short and sweet, and the representative was nice. American Home Shield sent out Cooper Appliances from Bradenton and they visited to see what was wrong. The guy was polite and on a schedule so it was nice. He got here right here on time, even 10 minutes early actually, and he had a write-out of what he was gonna do. He was professional and really nice. I was really impressed. He was in and out in 10 minutes.
The Realtor had said that I would have to get a new stove and when I looked at prices of stoves, they were like $400. Also, I didn't want one because I like what we have. But the stove is from 2006 so it's over 10 years old. So I was thinking the contractor might say it's not gonna last very long. I actually asked how long he thought it would last and he said it would last a long time. He didn't think that the stove was bad at all. It was just the touch pad. The burners weren't working because the numbers on the touch pad didn't work.
He ordered a new touch pad for the stove and when he came back, he was on time as well. I could tell he had done this before. Then he installed the part in about an hour and it worked out really well. Without the touch pad working, nobody had used the stove. It's been taken care of and now, it's like a brand new stove. It looks great so I'm really happy about that. It's working great too. It was nice that that was so easy to fix. American Home Shield is good to have, just a peace of mind, and I'd recommend them. It was really easy to get in contact with them and to have that stove fixed. Plus the cost was $75 all the way around, for both visits, the part and the labor. It was a great deal. I didn't even pay the contractor money because American Home Shield had a credit card on file to charge me once they had visited.
Good afternoon Eric,
I enjoyed reading your review and seeing how AHS was able to be proactive and resolve the issues that you experienced with the stove. I am glad to hear that the repairs are completed and your experience was enjoyable!

We had a leak and AHS came out and fixed it. Then we had a bunch of rain for three weeks every single day, so I called them again and said that it was still leaking under my house but I couldn’t be sure because it was raining. So they came out and it turned out that they completely replaced the wrong pipe. Not only was that one pipe still leaking, but so was my bathtub. Nobody had gone over there to look even though they’ve been underneath my house for five times now. So, they came out again after they found out about that and fixed the tub. They also fixed the leak that they were supposed to fix initially. Everything seems to be going fine now and we just renewed our service. The warranty comes very handy.

I have filed a few claims with AHS. My first claim was for the plumbing and the guy who came out was excellent. He fixed the problem and everything was perfect. After that, I submitted another claim and I paid for the fee but they didn’t solve the problem. The techs came and they said they couldn't cover one part but the second part was covered and they needed to replace it. But they were gonna do the basic valve for the kitchen counter and it was not even the exact same thing. They said that if I wanna buy a more expensive one, I should go buy my own and they didn’t even replace the valve.
I also have a refrigerator deal going on. The first company that AHS sent out said that the freezer needed Freon but they went, never called, and never followed up. I called AHS again and they found me another appointment. Then the guy came and even though he knew the problem, he said that he wasn't told what he should bring to fix it, so he left. I complained again and AHS sent a new company. When their tech came, he said that the freezer needed a new control board and he was gonna order the part. This house is a vacation home where we come and go to, and by the time they called me, we weren’t there anymore. They said they were gonna come to replace the control board and I told them that I was coming back to the house on the 18th. They came on that day and changed the control board.
But the control board is supposed to show the temperature from freezer side and the refrigerator side, and it is saying that the temperature was going higher, not lower. So I called the contractor that worked on it and told them that the refrigerator is not fixed. But they said they tried their best and they couldn't do anything else. I told them this refrigerator and freezer from day one had a problem. There were so many recalls and a lot of times that technicians and the manufacturer came to fix it. They changed everything in the refrigerator but still, it is not working properly. Sometimes it was working, sometimes there was an issue with fuse and sometimes it was everything.
So many times I came back to the house and everything in my freezer was melted and ruined. The contractor said that they needed to study more to see what they can do to convince the manufacturer that the refrigerator is defective. I'm leaving today, and hopefully, next time that I come back, there will be a resolution. So, I'm waiting still for AHS to take care of my problem. They should call and follow up what is going on, but they haven't.

My experience with American Home Shield was great. My garbage disposal wasn't working and the guy that they sent out was very nice and professional. I got a new garbage disposal. I have tried doing submitting a claim online but I'm very computer-illiterate so I have been doing it over the phone and I've been getting very quick responses from the contractors. He'd usually call back the next day and we'd set up a time.
The instances I've had with the contractors out here was for my washing machine a long, long time ago which has since been replaced, but they did good there. And then, I had problems with my refrigerator and they came out and fixed that too. And then, the garbage disposal, and the garage door. The contractors that I've had experience with were all very good. I did have some problem with one. It was with my garage door opener. I knew the problem was opener and the guy was trying to tell me that I needed a new garage door and that was what's making the opener go bad. That was about the only negative experience I've had. Overall, AHS is great. I tell everybody that they need a home warranty and I pass AHS on to them.

I had an air conditioning problem and American Home Shield had to replace the compressor. Then, it went out again and I had the service technician come back out. I was pleasantly surprised and extremely grateful that although the Freon had leaked out, the tech said it was their fault. The Freon was $300 but they replaced it at no cost so that was really nice. The reps are also top notch and I was pleased with the people from that service.
Also, earlier in the year, we had a trash compactor replaced. The original service technician came out and said it needed to be replaced but that was the last we saw him. I went through AHS to get the new trash compactor. They used a service company to do that and we had some issues with having taps and tiles taken out. I was a little disappointed that they weren't gonna do anything because they weren't authorized to make any adjustments or repairs to get the compactor in. We can all be picky at times and get a little disgruntled when things don't go exactly our way but overall, things have gone well with my relationship with AHS and I'm well pleased.

One time, the circuit breaker wasn't working and American Home Shield had an electrician come out. The electrician checked the circuit breaker and he saw that it was connected to the water heater, and it was the water heater pump that was the problem as it was causing the circuit breaker to trip. We were charged for the electrician coming out when in actuality what we needed was a plumber. My concern was that we read in the contract that any time a service is provided, we will be charged the basic fee, even if it's not the proper contractor which we need that comes out. But other than that, the experience that we've had with AHS has been good.
I usually submit a claim by phone as that is easier, but my wife who normally files our claims may have done that online. Recently, AHS sent out a plumbing contractor and our interactions with them were positive. The plumber did everything that was necessary. After the repair, the hot water pump forces water more efficiently through the house.

I got American Home Shield’s policy because our AC units were old and the last thing I wanna have to replace as soon as I moved in was a full AC unit. We got it for two years. The AC didn't go which was good, although, I wished they did because then, it would have been covered. Then recently, our air conditioner started making a lot of noise, we could hear it like running its central air. It was my first time to use my American Home Shield. The first company they sent came and looked at it. They said that it needed Freon and that would stop the noise. They gave me a ridiculous price of $185. It took some getting used to, 'cause I didn't get a phone call from American Home Shield. They just sent emails and text to update.
Apparently, AHS didn't feel good about what that company said, and told me that they would be sending out a second opinion. And so they did and the contractor was wonderful. It turned out I needed very little Freon but the AC needed to have a good cleaning which we paid for because that wasn't covered. Then, I never got reimbursed for the $10 that I was supposed to get for the Freon that was put in which was what AHS was supposed to cover. But I never pursued it because I'm not really sure how that works.
I do a lot of things automated and I was led to believe that I always have to present online when I want a service. But I wish there was a better way to speak to someone verbally because sometimes, I have certain quick questions and it's tedious to try finding the information on the website. However, it's extremely difficult to get a live person on the phone. But when I speak to them regarding the policy, they’re wonderful. But as far as minor appliance repair, the process has a lot of back and forth. Like when my microwave shorted out, it should have been covered. But then someone was to come, then I had to wait when I could just go out, buy a new one and have it easily done.
In terms of service, the contractors that came out for the air-conditioner weren't both local which was fine. I signed up of service contract with the second company that came because I felt they were very honest. Whereas with the first company, I felt like they were overcharging, and made me question how come right away the technician just thought the problem was that and wanted to charge us. So overall, even though American Home Shield’s very good, I don’t think I would ever renew even it would take a lot of money to replace things if I have to because it's just too tedious to deal with AHS..

We placed a service call to American Home Sheild on 8/16/2018 for repair to our Samsung washing machine. We were told a service provider would call and arrange to come out. We received call a few days later from a company called Astro Appliances. We made arrangements for the company to come out the next day. I took off from work all day since their window of time for them to come out was between noon and 5pm. We called the company and were told they had someone on the way. (This was at 4pm.) I waited, still no show.
The next day my husband gets a call that they are at our house and of course no one is home since it was scheduled the previous day. We made another appointment, which I had to take off from another day of work and they finally showed a week later. We were told the drain pump cover was broken and that they would need to order the part. We waited almost 2 weeks and finally get a call that our part is in. We schedule for them to come out (we are now at week 3). The technician comes out to repair the part and now notice there’s another part inside of the drain pump cover that is broken as well. Of course, they don’t have said part and would need to order the part.
It has been now a total of 6 weeks and we still do not have the 2nd broken part nor do we have our washer working. We have called AHS and was told basically that there is nothing we can do but wait. We have asked for a different service provider and was told we could not switch unless Astro Appliances is unable to repair it. We have called AHS several times a week, each time we call AHS calls Astro Appliances and once we were told they have no idea when the part will be in, then we were told the part should be in by the end of the week or first of next week, now we are being told the part should be in by Thursday. It is now Thursday (6 weeks later) and still no call. I have reached out to AHS asking for a manager and each time we are put on hold for at least 30 min but I hang up since I can’t continue to hold. We are beyond frustrated at this point.
I use our washer as part of my business which makes this situation even more frustrating. And let me add that until this situation, we have had good service from AHS which is why this is so disappointing. AHS should really investigate their service providers since this company has really bad reviews from many unhappy customers. This type of service seems to be the norm for Astro Appliances. We will definitely need to reconsider our relationship with AHS if this is not resolved.

I've been with American Home Shield for a little more than a year and it’s not a good experience. The waiting time when phoning in a claim depends on the day I'd call which shouldn't be done on a Monday. The first time I did, we waited over three hours on the phone. If we’d stay on the line that long, they would knock us off. Then we'd call back and stay on the line but we won’t get it till the next day.
AHS owes me two visits. One was the one from San Jose that never came out. I made a San Jose report and canceled it immediately, but I was still charged $100. Then a couple of days ago, I called AHS and told them that there was a leak from a crack in the booster pump. Their contractor came out and said that the booster pumps are not covered, just the inside filtration. But American Home Shield never told me that when I called them.
The contractors that we have come to contact with were dumb. The ones in Antelope, California took three months to figure out where the leak was. My daughter, who is not a plumber, found the leak. And after the contractor said that they fixed it, I told them to put that sheetrock up the next day in case it’s still leaking and sure enough, it leaked onto the bed which ruined a mattress and the floor. I just put in hardwood floors so we had to rip up the flooring and redo half the room. They said they were giving back the fee because it took three months to fix our leak. But then they made up other excuses and said that it was because our toilet didn’t fit right so they were not going to give the fee back.
So, I had a real contractor come out, and he said, “What are they talking about?” AHS then said they got a submission from a contractor and until I get my toilet fixed right and it sits on an even ground, they weren't going to warrant my toilet ever. But there was nothing wrong with the toilet since it was brand new. I tried to contact AHS to get reimbursed for six times now and when I got a hold of them they said that they were looking into it and would call me back. But they never did. It was a $75 charge I never got back.

When the garage door wouldn't open, I called in to file the claim. I don’t like doing it online because I wanna be able to explain what's going on. When I initially made the request, I was told the contractor wouldn't be able to come down until three or four days later. I asked if that was the earliest they had then I took it. But within the three or four days, the garage door started working so I cancelled the request. I called in and spoke to American Home Shield. But they still sent the poor guy out. He called me that morning to come out and I felt bad for him. I told him that the request had been cancelled.
But after that, the garage door started acting up again. Sometimes, it would open but then it wouldn't open all the way. I made another request and explained that they should just do it that time. When the actual guy came out, he said the issue was electrical. It had something to do with the motherboard up in the main and that was what he fixed. I had an air conditioner claim with American Home Shield and it took me a really long time to get somebody here to fix it. It was horrible to not have any air. Cutting Edge came out and the first time they did, they put more coolant in the AC and they said everything else was good to go. That lasted three weeks and I had to call back. Then, they said that there was a short in the unit out back and somebody else patched that up. Then two weeks later, it wasn’t cooling again and they said they had to replace a different part, which they got a few weeks later. It was a trialing summer.
They came three times and I would always ask before they left if there’s anything else they think or how long would they estimate everything working smoothly before I need to have something else done. And they would give the same kind of response every time. “This is fixed, and everything else looks fine.” Every time somebody new comes, it was inconsistent what they know and what the other person knew and I would try to keep them up to speed. Having new technicians every time is not necessarily better because I don’t know what skill level each person is operating at. The first couple guys that came out were pretty efficient, and I felt like I was getting seen as soon as they possibly could another time. But I would call back and they would say they had a part in and then I would call again a few days later and they would say they made a mistake. It was a mess. Other than that, the AC has been good so far and everything is cooling fine right now.

It will most likely cost less to pay for the repairs out of pocket. In four year of using AHS, I have had three claims. AHS has only covered 10% of the cost of repair? One of these claims, my homeowners picked up, which covered the majority of the cost. Don’t waste your time or money on a home warranty.

The bottom burner had gone out on the oven, so a guy came over and said that the bottom burners didn't work. I told him to order one and, two days later, he came in and replaced it. He made sure it worked. We also had a problem with the air-conditioning. It wasn't working right and it would keep tripping the breaker, so AHS sent an air-conditioning person out. He checked the whole air-conditioning and said that everything was fine. He said that I got a bad breaker, but he didn't do electrical works. AHS had to send an electrician out the next day and he replaced the two breakers, one at the unit and one at the main fuse box. It has worked fine since then.
I wanted to have the warranty because I didn't know what the status of everything that was in the house in case something was gonna break quickly. Although there is a 75$ copay, AHS has saved me money with the two things that had happened. If everything is all new, I wouldn't want it, but I bought a 20-year old home, so things are gonna start to break and it's going to be useful.

My most recent claim with AHS was the split air conditioner. I submitted that claim over the phone and the phone wait time was only 45 minutes. I also said to call me back and they did, so it was pretty straightforward and easy. They had someone out yesterday. He was really quick and pinpointed what was the issue. He was also personable and knew what he was doing. I would recommend AHS. Overall, they've been really spot-on. I've used them for another house years ago and back then, it wasn’t all that good, but right now, they're friendly and they're helpful. Any future type issues, they're like, "if this happens, just give us a callback." They've been pretty good.

American Home Shield is a good thing to have, and I really like their service. They're very prompt on what they have to do. So far, my experience has been great. I usually call and have someone come to look at a problem. American Home Shield's customer service has been great. The contractors they've sent have been really on it. I had a plumber come out yesterday. He opened the drain and then he left. He told me their office would call me, but no one has ever called me. So, I'm at a blank right now on that. But I also had a claim with an AC issue where A&R Complete Service Corp had to come out. The AC was going on and off, and then it went completely off, but it's working well now.

I usually submit claims with American Home Shield online as it's easier for me to do that. The contractors that they sent out have been amazing. I've been with AHS for a long time and I've only had one instance where I didn't want to let a tech in the house because he looked like a serial killer and I was there by myself. Sometimes, it was hard for me to reach the contractors and for them to reach me. Mostly, it was easier to reach me by email or text. But the recent repairs that I've had have all been good. I just need to get these last couple of repairs, one of which is that I've got some drain dripping. They're little things, but they still need to get fixed.
With the last call that I had with AHS, I still haven't gotten my item fixed. My little boy accidentally flushed something down the toilet and that thing blocked it. I haven't been able to schedule the repair for that, so the toilet is still not working. It has been two weeks since that happened, but that was partly because I was working so much that I didn't know if they were calling me or not and I was also in the hospital last week. Other than that, though, my experience with AHS has been really good.

Today for the first time since having AHS requested service. Service was set up online but contractor or AHS did not contact me when Contractor did not show up. Called contractor and they stated they could not make the call due to distance. Contractor said they would call AHS. Did not hear anything all day. Called AHS, waited 11 minutes, hung up, called second time 15 minutes then called another number, waited 13 minutes before call was answered. Stated situation and they called the contractor and waited again then AHS said they would set up another contractor. When I explained I had wasted a whole day and wanted to talk to a supervisor was informed I could not and that when I asked if they could call me back again could not. So I informed the rep to cancel the service request. Very poor service etc...

I signed back up with AHS because I had used them in the past and was not too happy with the tech from R&S in Corbin Kentucky they sent, but wanted to give them another chance to redeem themselves. They reached out to an HVAC Company called R&S out of Corbin, KY. This was a mistake. The first tech they sent said I needed a compressor so after the compressor was received about a week and a half later two techs came to my house to install it. After I waited all day that Friday. They called late Friday night and asked if they could come out the next day, Saturday. I told them I had an appointment that day but if they could complete the job before noon it would be fine. I was told they would be there around 9:00 am.
One of the techs called me Saturday morning and I told him that I had another tech check out my unit about two months prior and filled my tank up with Freon so there should be no need for additional Freon. Tech said,"Yes there should be no need". Two techs showed up at my house around 9:30 am to install the compressor. I went to the HVAC unit where they were working and informed them that I will need to leave around 12:00 pm and asked if they would be done by then. They said they should be. I went out a second time around 11:45 am to remind them that I had to leave. This is when I saw the older tech using a recovery tank. I thought they were taking some Freon out and going to reuse it since it had just been put in about two months ago.
I told them both that I had to leave, but my son was at home so once they were done they could call me and I would call my son and tell him to close the garage door. This was when I was told that I also needed a larger capacitor which they didn't have (standard small part) and that he (older tech) thinks he has one in his shop and would return to install it. This never happened. I waited two weeks to see if either R&S or AHS would contact me and neither ever did. So after I got tired of waiting I called AHS and asked about the delay and this is when they told me about the Freon charge and the additional electrical charge.
I was so upset because not only did they send the same group (R&S from Corbin, KY) out who had messed up my unit (rigged capacitors together) the year before, but when I mentioned my concerns about the cap being burnt from the soldering they did and the possibility of the heat causing wiring concerns the AHS rep. continued on about the charges and using the same group. She told me about the Freon charges and stated that I needed to pay for it and the electrical charges.
I asked for more details on the electrical and they told me I needed to call R&S because they are not given those details. Then I requested that another technician come out to look at my unit because I wasn't comfortable with the repairs and charges, but AHS told me that I needed to work something out with the HVAC company (What am I paying them for?). I asked what about my concerns for my unit and reemphasized that I was not comfortable, but I was told that they couldn't do anything and that they stand behind their technicians. You are better off saving your money on your own monthly. Keep in mind that it doesn't matter what your concerns are they will not believe you.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I put in a claim with my refrigerator. The first contractor came out. Checked it out and said the compressor was bad and they don’t replace compressors in refrigerators. Not worth the time and money to do so. They reported this to AHS and AHS closed the ticket. After not hearing from AHS, I called them, then sent out another contractor out with the same result as the first contractor. AHS asked the second contractor if they could replace the compressor and they said, "Yes but not worth parts and labor on a 17 year old refrigerator." AHS said, "Replace the compressor." Yesterday Sears shows up at the house, same results, now that’s 3 contractors.
Keep in mind we have been without a refrigerator for over a month, I paid the $100 deductible, AHS spent who knows on three contractors and still no working refrigerator. After speaking again with AHS they are going to replace the compressor with a 60 to 90 Day warranty. Now I priced the refrigerator 400-500 dollars max. Question is mathematically how much have I and AHS spent to repair a 17 year old refrigerator and is it worth it? All other transactions with AHS were very good. This transaction with the refrigerator is just wrong for me and AHS.
Good afternoon David,

A previous repair with a different contractor had the same results and I was without any air conditioning for 2 weeks and it was 106 degrees outside. Absolutely awful to work with, will not be renewing my contract.

I had water in my garage that looked like it was coming from either the hot water heater or the central AC unit and the furnace. I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They said that someone from a company would give me a call and within a couple of hours, the company called. Their tech came pretty quickly. He was polite, courteous, and professional. He's also been out here before last year for a problem with our AC unit outside and so we already had somewhat of an experience with him. Everything was great. The issue got fixed in a timely manner and it's been excellent since then. Having an American Home Shield warranty is very valuable because if something goes wrong, then you pay your little deductible and get it fixed. It's nice to be able to call one person and then they take care of everything. All you have to do is wait on a phone call from a contractor. And so, it's well worth having it.

I had a call, and then they told me they were gonna send someone, and to wait another day. So that was a little bit off. It took two days for somebody to get out here. The guy who came was pleasant. So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been very smooth and the interactions that I've had with them has been courteous and timely. Once, my AC was leaking. The drained area was too clogged up so I tried to work to get it undone with the Shop-Vac but it was too far back up, so it didn't work. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim and they responded quickly. The reps I talked to were very professional. It was frustrating that I had to pay $125 for a company to come and blow the clog out within five minutes. But the contractor was very good, quick, and considerate. Also, the unit is fine now and there have been no problems with it since the service.

We just came from a vacation and the house was extremely hot. It was still the middle of the summer and I was having an issue with my air conditioner. I decided I needed someone to talk to right there and then so I decided to call American Home Shield instead of going online even though I'm an online person when submitting a claim. They got a technician out and when he came, I wanted to touch base and see exactly what the issue was 'cause I thought it was the same thing where we had to replace the entire unit, both inside the attic and outside, strictly because of how old it was, but that wasn't the case.
He explained and showed me how it was. He was testing to see if we had any leak for Freon and things of that nature. Maybe they just didn't want to do their job and they just wanted to sell me a new unit, which was frustrating. But he explained everything and discussed if the system stopped working within a specific amount of time, then we can call him back. It's possible that we would have to get a different unit, and that'll be covered because he already ran all the diagnostics, and the only thing that he saw was what he needed to fix.
Another thing was when I signed up, we talked about the rate for the technician to come out but I don't think we ever discussed that we were gonna have to pay the technician when he comes out as well so it was a surprise. I wasn't prepared to pay and then write another check when he got here. Other than that, they got the air conditioner fixed fairly quickly and it's still working.

American Home Shield is a good program, but their customer service follow up sucks. I filed a claim on my dishwasher and they did the initial job of replacing the motor in the dishwasher. However, it was making more noise than the original motor. So, I called American Home Shield, and they said they would contact the technician, and I contacted the technician myself. He was gonna come back out and recommend to replace the dishwasher. None of that ever happened and all of a sudden, the dishwasher got quieted down a bit so I let it go. It seemed to have corrected itself over the last eight weeks while I was waiting for them to get back with me.
When I submitted the claim, American Home Shield gave me a technician's phone number, and I got a hold of him, and he came out to our house and did his thing. He came out to the house before for different classes. He's a good man, on time, punctual, clean, and polite. He did a great job and he explained it. He thought that the dishwasher needed to be replaced and that was what American Home Shield was supposed to do. They are not responding back to emails and they haven't called me back. I even left a voice mail on somebody's phone.
There was also one time before when they came out to fix the air conditioner. It had a leak in the Freon. I was on travel so my wife was at home. A tech came out and fixed the Freon and charged her $150 because the Freon that American Home Shield covers is only a small amount. Two days later, it leaked again in the same area. The technician came out and charged another $150 to fix that little leak. So, when I came back, I called American Home Shield and said, "This guy should have found this all at one time. It shouldn't have been two different calls and all that stuff." American Home Shield never called back to respond. American Home Shield's follow up after they get your 100 bucks is nil. They need to keep following up.

The coil on our AC broke and it leaked all the Freon out. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent me to somebody. It was very simple and easy. I've had AHS since I purchased the house in 2013 and I like to read the reviews of the person they send to my home and when I don’t like the reviews, I request somebody else and they help me with that.
My husband was there when the contractors came and they were very nice and professional. They also took the new floors at our home into consideration. We tried to get the parts replaced, but the Freon was very expensive and the coverage for the AC only covered 10%. So for us to come out with that much money to buy the Freon, we decided to replace the whole unit ‘cause we didn’t wanna end up doing the same thing in one or two years. We also had to finance the new unit to be able to pay for it in 10 years. So that was the only downside. Other than that, everything went great.

My AC unit wasn't cooling so I called American Home Shield. My contractor came out and spent four hours at my house, which was way overkill. He identified the problem immediately but said that American Home Shield would've wanted him to continue to dig and to find out what else was the problem. I said, “Well you already know it's the compressor” and I told him it’s still under warranty. But being a new technician, he didn't feel comfortable with his own diagnosis.
The following day, AHS sent another personnel to look at the AC. The tech was with a supervisor and they spent another hour and a half looking at the AC. They also determined that it was the compressor. They ordered a new compressor and about a week later, they showed up with a new one. So, the repair took about a week with three different visits and they charged me $400 and some dollars to extract and refill Freon. They said that the Freon wasn't covered in the contract. I asked them to send me a receipt for the Freon, but they never sent one.
I’m also dealing with another issue with AHS. They were claiming that I never paid them the $75 for the service call fee. I told them that they automatically deducted that out of my account after the first visit, and they weren't even finished with the job. So to me, that's a little bit disconcerting because I've gotten two invoices after I called them twice and spent over 30 minutes waiting for them to answer the phone. Then, this one girl said I don't have to worry about it because I won't get more invoices but it wasn't even ten days later that I got another one. There was something screwy about the whole thing but I would still keep AHS. I thought, “Who else?” and the Heating and Air Company have been out to my house twice so they’re okay.

We also filed another claim online for our range and it was really easy. But I haven't heard back from them. Also what they can do is give you an area where you can explain exactly what the problem is that you're dealing with like what's broken that you need repaired and stuff like that. Otherwise, the person that comes out has no idea what might be wrong.
Nevertheless, I like the website. It's clean and easy to make claims. AHS helped out a lot of savings for us. It's a great service to have in case of any emergency, especially if you don’t have the money right away and you can't afford a high cost repair. You make small monthly payments and once something happens, you pay a little bit. They come out and fix what could be $1,000 or multi-thousand-dollar problem for less than $100.

To begin with, this service is a joke. Everything done repair wise is a band-aid fix, as replacing units are too costly and are always put to the back burner with smaller repairs. I understand covering the cost of bigger appliances are last priority, but come on. How can someone come out to a house to look at a broken unit and say its fixed when indeed it's not. I ended up replacing my entire AC system, water heater and plumbing issues I had because it was not worth dealing with Home Shield.
First time I had a plumber come by, he did absolutely nothing, walked out of my house and I was still charged for the repair, again he did absolutely nothing. Spoke to the call center and specifically asked for them not to send these contractors out to my house for future repairs if needed, and was met with "sorry, but the way our system works is... etc." Nothing but a complete waste of money. If anything, I am so glad I didn't waste my money in purchasing this warranty that was paid for by the previous owners.
As a contractor myself, I want absolutely no involvement with this company. I constantly refer people to not use this service as it is a waste of money and homeowners are much better off paying for services outright and out of pocket. Like I said, I am a contractor and I see first hand how companies get in with these warranty repair companies and listen up homeowners, don't waste your money. Keep your hard earned paycheck in the bank and away from these thieves. Save yourselves the headaches and do bother buying into this company, what a joke!

Had an big air handler leak with renters coming in just a few hours. Given the urgency and the no time to wait, decided to call HVAC I know rather than go straight to AHS and have to wait, and call AHS after to get reimbursed. The lady at AHS, "Rachel", spoke very broken English and I could not understand her very well, and asked to speak to a supervisor. She claimed I did understand but I just didn't like what she was telling me. I explained that I could not understand everything she was saying and she hung up on me. I called right back and got her again. "Rachel" did not deny hanging up on me, but once again asked for all the info on address/phone/etc. I didn't want to give it to her. Wanted to speak to supervisor. She asked why, I said, "Because I cannot understand what you're saying," and she hung up again. Not happy. I sure hope those calls were recorded for quality purposes.

When we moved into our house, we had draining problems in the shower. The techs who came here were pleasant. They've resolved the issue that AHS has tasked them to do, which were surface-type repairs. For example, with the drainage in the shower, they told us that they see hair. At that time, we've only lived in the house for a few weeks. It couldn't be hair clog as that would take time. But they just pulled out hair and told us it was resolved. A few weeks after that, our kitchen wouldn't drain. A company came out again and fixed that. It was a job well done, but it's not like they did a future investigation to see how to fix it like a quality repair.
Then now, a few weeks later, none of our toilets flush. Water is coming up through the floor, and dirty water is coming up through our showers and in bathtubs that aren't draining. There's also water coming up from the floor in the closet in my bedroom. There was water all over the floor of the bathroom that we’ve never used too.
American Home Shield makes submitting a claim easy but the problem is that I have to select one of their options, which isn't always the most right description. So, there's a fundamental issue there. Then, they’d try to resolve that one issue based on what I selected. With the case that I’m still dealing with, I called it in because I wanted to make sure they knew it’s a house-wide issue. I told them that there's water coming up and asked them if they were gonna be prepared to dig the concrete to resolve the issue. They just said they would resolve the stoppage which sounded like they were just gonna snake the line and not fix the reason why the water’s coming from the ground. They also said they won't repair any secondary issues. So now, I have to replace my carpet on my own, when I wish they have figured out the issue from before it got this bad.
We also had an exhaust fan issue in our kitchen a few months ago. AHS had an electrician, two appliance persons and a bunch of contractors come out but nobody would do it because it's a small job. AHS then told me if I wanted to get it repaired, I have to find my own contractor. It was really hard but luckily, I have a relationship with the contractor who remodelled the kitchen at our previous house. He was willing to do it, but then, when he submitted the estimate, AHS took a few weeks to review it. We just got approval last week, and so I need to schedule the guy to come and fix the unit because it takes a long time to get it resolved. Overall, I don't think American Home Shield’s actually in it to be a warranty company, but to make money, just like any other business.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I usually submit claims with American Home Shield by phone and talking with their reps have been fine. AHS also calls me on who is supposed to be coming to my house in about two days, then there are times that it gets about a week before a contractor comes out too. My most recent claim was for the refrigerator and the washer. There was a problem with some switch in the refrigerator and there was a piece that wouldn’t allow the washer to get enough water.
One person came and when we mentioned what the problems were, he took a note of the issues. Then, another person came to put the parts. Usually, the company sends the same person to look at the issue and fix it because the same time that they did, it was fixed and then we still have the same problem and the person came out again and fixed it. But, that’s the only thing that was going on that was kinda off in my experience. Hopefully, they'd send the same person to come, look at the problem and fix it. Since the repair, the refrigerator and washer have been doing fine.
I also had an issue a year ago about my air conditioner that was not working and we called to fix it. The company that was supposed to come out showed up to look at it. A tech came back after the second day but he had no clue what he was doing there. It took two hours of back and forth, then he said that he was gonna bring a part on a certain day but he didn't. We were thinking there was a breakdown with the communication between AHS and the company because I kept calling both of them. AHS should also have some inspection with things that we need right away because being in Florida with our air conditioner dead and a 90 degrees weather, I ended up buying a portable air conditioner to put in my house from my own pocket. Finally after two weeks, somebody decided to do it and a person showed up to fix the air conditioner from that company. Nevertheless, I'm happy with American Home Shield.

I had two other requests a few years ago and it also took forever to get through to them, plus I had to wait for a service person to come. But once I got the people here to work on the problems, things went fine.
Recently, there was no cold air coming out from my air conditioning. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and I noticed that they've improved. Initially, I was reluctant to call them because of my previous experiences but I thought I'd give them a try and see what'd happen. So I called them then I made the appointment with the contractor they assigned, Austin Heating and Air. Then the contractor's people called me and they were out within a day. I was so thrilled and I could not believe it, so I told mom that AHS has changed and that she shouldn't give up. I also had a very nice and very pleasant interaction with the lady that made the appointment. She responded quickly. They also called to let me know just before the tech was to come and they really kept in touch with me, which I so appreciated.
Then the gentleman that came and helped me got the job done right away and was very polite and very helpful. He even gave me some other tips about my air conditioning. Plus, he had the part that he needed in his truck. My air conditioning unit is 18 years old and he told me that the older ones are great if the techs can fix them. All in all, it was a great fix and the AC has been working perfectly since the repair.
I am so impressed that American Home Shield has taken to heart the complaints about their claims process and fixed it. My last experience was so easy and I didn’t have to wait on anybody to call me or answer the phone. It was wonderful. Also, when I missed a phone call, American Home Shield emailed me saying they were sorry I missed it and I appreciated that. I'd recommend American Home Shield and tell my friends that they're very efficient and they get somebody out to you immediately. In fact, I have a friend who recently put in a request with her company and she said that she still haven't heard from anybody after several days. So I told her to switch to American Home Shield.

For two years, we have sung the praises of AHS. They made several small problems easy to handle (even though one AC wait time was fairly frustrating). We even have two policies now. Lately, however, we have been greatly disappointed. Getting someone on the phone and keeping them on the phone (I have been repeatedly cut off after FINALLY getting a rep on the phone) resulting in a couple of hours (on average) wasted when trying to call and ask a question.
Three weeks ago we had a sewage stoppage in our home resulting in raw sewage overflowing into our finished basement. This is covered in our policy. We put in a service request, saw that they had 24 hours just to schedule the service (and several more days to come out), and made the decision to hire our own vendor who had the problem fixed within three hours. This was based on health considerations. We were dealing with sewage and couldn’t even run water to wash our hands. We needed immediate service.
American Home Shield says, "You can call and request expedited service," however when I have tried this in the past for AC issues, I was denied. So when I have human sewage seeping into my carpet, I did not want to spend 1-2 hours on hold trying to get AHS rep on the phone only to be given a scripted ‘no’ response I have gotten used to receiving from them. We have attempted to be reimbursed for the service — as it was a covered item (I didn’t expect the whole amount, but just whatever was listed as the allowable amount in the contract). They have denied our claim because we did not wait to have an approved service provider complete the work.
I believe AHS should have exceptions when it is a human health hazard to wait for service. I was greatly disappointed in this. Beyond that disappointment however (even though I call two days later to let them know we wouldn’t need their service provider as we had already hired someone to complete the service), we were STILL charged a 75.00 service call fee. The rep on the phone forgot to cancel the call. I called again to get this refunded. I again, wasted two hours on hold and being cut off to be told I would be refunded in 3-5 business days. Ten days later, no refund. We waste more time on hold to be told our refund would take 14-21 business days. Seriously?!
Maybe customer service was always sub par, but we could not be more unhappy with our experiences lately and will likely be cancelling our contracts as saving the money we have been paying them would be more cost effective. Especially considering they will use any loophole to avoid paying for a covered service. I will be informing anyone relevant to avoid this home warranty company as they do not provide the peace of mind and help they claim to.

Our HVAC system was not working and leaking Freon. The service contractor from AHS wanted to replace the unit but required ductwork and installation that was not covered. A senior AHS representative asked us to pay for the costs around $550 out of our own pocket. We paid in cash with a receipt and pictures. The contractor never installed the unit and made claims that AHS was at fault. The contractor named Jason ** of J HVAC and Appliance stole the money.
AHS claimed that they would get the money back and return it. They believed that he would pay it back otherwise would get fired. AHS never returned the money that their contractor took. A police report was filed with the Carbon County Police Department. AHS would not fire Jason ** their contract until there were enough complaints against him such that his rating would fall. They continued to use Jason ** even though they were aware of this crimes. AHS subsequently wanted to repair the Freon leak rather than replace it with a new contractor which violates some Clean Air Act laws. The organization has very questionable behavior.

I've had good experiences with American Home Shield. Once, our refrigerator was clogged. It wasn't draining the way it should and it was leaking all over the floor. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and they contacted a company to set up the appointment. The representatives from AHS are always prompt about getting me hooked up with someone to get an issue fixed. It's really nice. They also pick good contractors and so far, my experience with the people they've sent out have been very good. Aside from the refrigerator claim, I also had a garbage disposal claim and both times, the techs who came were very professional and timely. They explained what the problem was and what they were gonna do to fix it. Then, if I asked questions, they answered them. They got the job done and the units worked after the service. The guy who pulled out my refrigerator had to actually cut the tubing. I hope that fixes the problem permanently.

We recently filed a claim to AHS to replace the motor for the heat pump. The blower was not working, and the house was extremely warm. I had a little difficulty understanding the person on the other end when I called to submit the claim but the contractor has been very cooperative and very helpful. He's at the house today finishing the work. We are upgrading because of a potential addition onto the house. Since the blower was not working and needed to be replaced anyway, we decided to upgrade. They are expecting to install the unit today. We've been dealing directly with the contractor. I have not heard a word from AHS but they are generally very cooperative and it's definitely worthwhile.

I had an air conditioner repaired recently through American Home Shield. When I submitted the claim, they said somebody would contact me from the company and I didn’t hear anything for the first 24 hours. So, I called that company directly and scheduled an appointment. That wasn’t automatically done right away and I had to do it myself. When the contractor came, I wasn’t here but my wife said everything was good. He explained everything. The deductible's a little high though and the Freon was covered only up to a pound. I would basically pay that without even having an insurance. If something major would’ve went wrong with it, I would’ve saved money but the insurance didn’t pay me really that much because of the high deductible. Still, my experience was easy.

We have a rental that is being rented by our daughter and her roommate. Our daughter called and said the toilet was slow to refill and there was a whistling in the line. I went to American Home Shield's website and submitted a claim. I got a confirmation back quickly that the contractor had been notified and that we would get a call when they were coming, which we did. The contractors came within a few days and from what my daughter told me, everything was fine. When we purchased the house, a year’s warranty came with it, which was great and helpful. We got none of the warranty information on the concrete, siding, shingles, and appliances, so it was a good plan for the seller to provide that. Having a warranty for the rental is valuable and after the second year, we decided to renew it for another year.

Navigating the website was simple and I got a contractor within 24 hours, but I had to wait for days before the tech could come out and fix it as the company didn’t have enough techs and they were backlogged. In fact, the tech who came out was on vacation at the time that I had submitted the claim. He was respectful, though, and had the air conditioner fixed within 30 minutes. Since the repair, it's been working fine. It's been fabulous with AHS. They're well worth having.

Before, if I needed to have American Home Shield's service, I would just call them and tell them what the issue was and they would say that they were gonna call someone out to meet that problem. When they get in touch with that particular person, they would call me and set up a scheduled date. Then, if I'm available at the time, I would tell them when they could send someone out. At that particular time, years ago, we would pay the person that came out and the same amount stays, but they changed their price over the years.
Nowadays, I have to pay American Home Shield and once I tell them whatever the issue is, they tell me that it will cost whatever it is that they charge. They also wanna know if I want to pay or if I would rather pay later after the person is there. They have a bank part that I keep on file, so they would submit whatever it is that needed to be done and they would submit for their payment. They have been very good and I hope to be able to keep them as times go on.
There were several things going on at the same time and the washing machine was one of the problems that I had. The toilet was another issue, and their contractor, Amtech was very good and they did the job that needed to be done. If there is a problem that they can't meet, they go back and tell their boss whatever the issue is. Then, they will get in touch with American Home Shield to see if the contract that I have with them will cover the problem and, if they do, the fellow will come back right out and resolve the problem. AHS do what they can. I've been with them for years and I know how they work. They are very good on trying to resolve whatever my issue may be.

My experience with American Home Shield has been very poor overall. I normally submit claims over the phone and every time I call, it takes me an hour to get through to somebody. They've also sent out a couple of bad vendors. One contractor came back three times and did a terrible job. Finally, somebody else came out and fixed the problem. The last guy who came out was fine though. It was for a plumbing need and the problem was solved. However, these AHS people keep bugging me and sending me emails that I owe $75 for the call when we had already paid that. I talked with the contractor and he said that he was paid. I also got the check number and the check was cashed. So I'm really perturbed. I got a copy of a cancelled check from the plumber and a copy of a cancelled check that I paid American Home Shield for nuisance purposes. It's been a hassle and I'm an unhappy customer.

If you can request service online that is the best bet but if you try to request a follow up to the same issue, you have to call them, you cannot do it online. I will explain the situation in a factual manner with no emotion. I placed a service request to AHS, keep in mind I have been a customer for 10 years and have utilized a total of (three) 3 service calls, one which I ended up paying for the Freon myself, $6000 in monthly charges. The service call was for an AC unit that will not blow cold, in Alabama, in September (90 all week). I put the call in on Tuesday, company showed the next day without a tall enough ladder. I had previously asked AHS to note in my file that the condenser is on the roof of a second story building and a 50-60’ ladder is required (as we dealt with this same situation previously).
I called AHS as the tech left and spoke with an awesome CSR! AHS gave the order to a company who claimed to have the correct equipment. I was told by the CSR that I was responsible for setting up an appointment and she gave me the number. I called immediately and was told by the new company that it would not be until Friday. I told them that was not ok, due to the temperature and immediately called AHS back. A new, seemingly helpful, CSR listened to me and called the company to confirm my story, and the company told her they were coming the next day, Thursday. I called and left four voicemails and the company refused to call me back. I had my husband call from a different number and they answered immediately. They told him they would be there 5:45, so we waited.
At 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30 my husband texted and they said just a little longer... They never showed. They came Friday at 8:30 (today) without the ladder. They told my husband they would be back at 1:30 and never showed. They have told us they will meet us tomorrow at 11:00. In the meantime I have called AHS, put on hold multiple times for an hour and they refused to dispatch a new company. I asked to speak with a supervisor and after being on hold 30 minutes I was told one would call me back. In summary, AC unit does not work, companies dispatched did not have correct equipment and it is now going to be day five before someone looks at it, if they show. This is how a loyal, 10 year customer, three previous calls, is treated.
Good morning Laura,
Your patronage to AHS over the past 10 years is greatly appreciated. However, I understand your concerns with the delay in service to have the air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you regarding the issues at hand and assist to get them resolved.

Typically, my interactions with the AHS reps have been fine. But sometimes, I feel like they're rushing to get off the phone. I understand they're busy but sometimes, not all my questions get answered. On the other hand, the contractors that have been sent out here have been good. When they were here, they made sure that I was right there with them in case they had any questions or I had any questions on what they were doing. My ground fault switch wouldn't reset so I bought a new one. I didn't know how to do it and I had to call American Home Shield so that the electricity could get outside my house again. Their contractor was a great kid. I'm so old and with these new things I couldn't even plug things in. I didn't know there is a child protection plug and the contractor told me about it. I've tried several times and it wouldn't go in. The contractor said, "Watch," and he just pushed it in. A couple of days later, I went to put another one in there and I had one hell of a time. So I said, "Well, I'm gonna push." So I pushed and it went right in.
It has rained and everything and my switch has been working just like it's supposed to. However, their price is going up every year and I keep seeing this advertisement on television for another insurance company that's cheaper for the same thing. So if their price keeps going up, I might have to switch. But all my experiences with AHS were good. I've got seven kids and I recommended it to all of them.

When I got the house, I used the washing machine and it would spin. Then, it started leaking, so the tech came out to fix whatever it was for it to stop leaking. The machine is not leaking anymore, but now, when we put the laundry in, it doesn’t spin and would start making a noise that sounds like it's about to burn out. Then, it stops for a good 15 minutes and would crank back. Then, when it starts spinning again, it would stop. So, I don’t consider that being an operable machine even though the tech came out and ran without any clothes or sheets in it, and that was what I was telling him. So, on the same day that they came out, I washed some clothes and stayed down in the basement the whole time to see how it was gonna operate. It did the same thing. So, the machine is still sitting on the side because we still have to purchase a new washer.
Each and every time they come out, they charged me when they said they didn’t find anything and just left the machine not working properly. I should not be billed for something like that because the machine isn’t working. AHS said that if they have to send someone else out here for third opinion, the contractor has to do the full running up of the machine. So, it had to be a loaded with clothes for them to know that the machine is not working. The tech did it and said that everything was cool. I said I wanted to run it with a blanket in there, so when I came back, the wet blanket was sitting on top of the washing machine, not even rung out. I asked why it was up there and he just said it was working.
So, I’m not gonna do another claim on it because it’s not worth paying around a hundred dollars for a machine that’s only around 400 dollars. Overall, I’m not satisfied with them, not because I don’t believe American Home Shield is not doing their job or not doing the service, but because of the people they send in to do the job who are not being honest about fixing stuff which does not give AHS a good look.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is usually not too big of a problem, but sometimes the timeline of getting someone to come and do the actual work can be one day to two weeks. With my microwave, it took them almost a month to get it totally repaired because they had to come three times. The first time they came, they didn’t have the right part or they may replace the unit instead of repairing it. The person to replace it called and told me that I would pay so much and that they would pay the rest, or the repair person would come back and repair it. However, AHS didn’t facilitate that information to the repair person, so I had to call back a week later. They said that the ticket was closed and they didn’t realize it. That was a little frustrating, but once they finally got all the parts that they needed, they got my microwave repaired.
The contractors were fine, although they didn’t have what they needed and in order to do anything, they had to keep calling AHS to get approval. The second guy that came said that he gotta call because the part was over the limit, although the parts weren’t even $20. He said that they couldn’t get anything done without getting approval, but for less than $20, I had to wait because they had to get in touch with AHS, then they had to send it to the assigned person. It was ludicrous, but the unit has been working fine since the repair.
Another issue is AHS had my daughter’s mailing address as my mailing address. I called them and asked why they have my daughter’s mailing address as my mailing address when I’ve been with the company far longer than she has been. The rep couldn’t explain why there was a mix-up. I asked what they had on file and he repeated my daughter’s address. I said it wasn't my address, so he looked again and he said my home address as the service address. I told him that it is also the mailing address and had it not gone to my daughter’s house, I wouldn’t have known that I have an increase in my fees. I told them that I needed for them to send me an updated contract with my correct mailing address. I got my new paperwork from American Home Shield, but it was from last year’s contract, not my current contract showing that my rates have gone up. I’m frustrated right now.
Still, the service is excellent because of the price of repairs and when I need work done, once the contractors are contracted to me, the service is done correctly. However, they can also be a bit more timely in setting appointments with the different contractors or they may need to get more contractors. When critical categories are there, it needs to be a bit more timely.

The air conditioner in my rental house went out. I called American Home Shield and told them that it was not working. It was when it was super hot here, and from what I was told, I would have some response back within 48 hours. But there was no response back. I called multiple times. Finally, they told me that the reason for the delay was that they could not find an HVAC person in the Gig Harbor area that they could use. It was hard to believe because Gig Harbor's a larger place.
I told them that there is a Gig Harbor air conditioning and heating. I also asked why I couldn't use them, and they said that the company is not on their list. The house was listed "For Sale" at that point, so all the times that we were having showings, the house was horribly hot. Finally after multiple phone calls, I was able to get an authorization to get my own HVAC company because they couldn't find anybody. And so I had to pay for it myself and then submit a claim to them. They gave me a pre-authorization form that said that if I paid for it, they would pay me back. That was fine. A gentleman was out here the next day and had the unit up and running.
I submitted my claim and called them to find out if the check had been sent. They said that it had been sent on September 4th to the Gig Harbor address where the house was located and not where I live. I asked why they would send it to a rental house, and they said they had to. The rule is they have to send the check to the place that the repair was made. I told them that it didn’t make any sense because that's a rental house. The rep talked to multiple people and it was the rule and it was sent out and I was in Arizona at the time, so I had to try to figure out if I could find somebody who could go to the mailbox there and get it because it's a locked mailbox and it's a house that's listed on the market.
I got a call back from someone that confirmed that she had gone a step further and they had stopped payment on the check that was sent to the Gig Harbor house and they were reissuing a check that would be delivered to my residence. When I got home last Saturday, the original check that was issued on the 4th was sent to my home address. It was never sent to the Gig Harbor address. They've already stopped payment on it and now, I have to wait for another one. I was so frustrated because it should not have been this hard. The first part of this whole thing started in the beginning of August and it was close to 14 days before I could even work through the system to get an authorization to hire our own HVAC people to get in here.
And then the original guy that we hired said that he had presented them three times with the cost of what it would be, so that I could get my authorization. Every time I called to confirm it, AHS said they never got it. I told them that the guy that we hired was sending it to them through the fax number that they gave me to send it to. The guy sent it to me as well. I sent it to them from my computer and then I got a confirmation back that they received it. The guy that we hired said, "Leslie, this is exactly why we stopped working with American Home Shield. We had jobs that we did that they never even paid us on and or fought us for an extremely long time to get paid on." He also told me that they don’t work with them anymore.
It always seemed that whenever I try to put forth a claim through AHS, the people that they work with who are on the list of providers always seem to have a worse taste in their mouth for AHS than what I would have because of the way that they either treat them or pay them or interact with the service providers. Therefore, it makes it somewhat difficult as a person who has the policy to feel that I'm getting good work done or a quality repair because they tend to be not on the highest list with AHS. Sometimes getting the work done and approved is not as easy as it's perceived to be when you initially sign up for the policy. Each person that you have to speak with throughout the processes need to be able to read their notes better on previous phone calls or interactions they've had with people. Still, AHS has worked for us. We have two rental houses and a pinery that we have it with. The service is good and it's a comfort to have it.

I had American Home Shield two years back and one time, I had a problem with the air conditioner when there was condensation. It could be the drain pipe of the water onto the plumbing of the house. This was connected to the upstairs bathroom and I was getting water in my basin. I called American Home Shield and a contractor came and looked at the problem. The first guy said he could not do anything and he left. He didn’t leave the house in a very good way because they cut a hole into the drywall to check. That was okay though because without that, one could not do anything. Then somebody else came, another joker who didn't know anything. He flooded the place and upstairs, he pulled down the insulation and he couldn’t figure out the problem.
I called American Home Shield and the third guy came. He used the snake but he couldn’t fix the problem either. He said the snake turned the wrong way at the junction, and they also left. I got very tired of the technicians but I knew some people at TradeMark Engineering who were very good although they were expensive. I called them and a guy came. He knew what the problem was and in three quarters of an hour, he fixed it. My $350 extra went out of my pocket when nothing should have gone. At least the house was fine, but then I cancelled the warranty with American Home Shield.
Cancelling the contract was like pulling out your own teeth. I called them and once, they kept me on hold for 1 hour and 15 minutes before I could get anybody to talk to, which was very bad. Those were all deceptive techniques of marketing, so I waited and finally, I got somebody. It was really difficult to cancel, but somehow I managed. But if I sell the house and I move off and it’s gonna be difficult to cancel the contract, then I have no other recourse but to go to the bank and say, “Don’t let this money go,” because it's on auto-pay.
I decided to go back to American Home Shield, however, now that I live in Dallas and I'm remote from the house where my tenants are. They could get into trouble and they would call me at midnight, so I got American Home Shield warranty for them. The first $75 is theirs and when the cost becomes too big, it will be mine. My tenant called me one time and said there was some problem with the bathroom faucet. I told them to call American Home Shield and they did. Then SWG Plumbing Services came and they did the work on the same day. I knew that the service call would be $75 and the tenant just moved in, so it should not be their problem. So I mailed the check but inadvertently, instead of sending it to the American Home Shield office in Tennessee , I sent it to an address in Pennsylvania. I got this address from the top of my previous invoice, so I thought the check would reach the people at American Home Shield.
My tenant then sent me an email saying that my payment was overdue, and it was not even two weeks. Apparently, the check did not reach American Home Shield and nobody knew what happened to it. I didn't want to be a bad customer, so instead of creating any further difficulty on American Home Shield, I sent another check out to their Tennessee office for the same amount, $75. But then I saw on my bank statement that the first check was cashed and so was the second check. I called American Home Shield and the guy who spoke to me didn't know what happened in the accounting. When they saw the check for that work order and that it was already paid, they should have not cashed the other check.
I called American Home Shield again and asked to get my money back. I was put on hold and I had to talk to some people, but I didn’t mind waiting. Over half an hour later and after being on hold two times, the rep came back twice and profusely apologized. He said American Home Shield will send me the check. It would go out from their office in two to three weeks. When I asked why so late, he said they had to send the request and it would go to another department. I understand that it is difficult to get the money out, so I'm waiting for the check to come. This is probably the third week. They said the approval was done but the check will be sent by another department. American Home Shield was okay, but sometimes they could be better and they could trust their clients a bit more. Therefore, I would tell a friend or family member not to go to American Home Shield just because I told them so. They should check around and then decide.

The sink in the kitchen had a stoppage and I called American Home Shield to have plumbing work done. The rep I spoke to was very good. Then by the time the plumber got here, we already cleared it up and it went through. It was good that he didn't have to run the snake, but I didn’t call back and cancel, so I had to pay. But he was okay. All he said is to put bleach and cold water and if it doesn’t clear up in four days, then give him a call. But last month, we had a claim with AHS for the air conditioning and they repaired a coil on the unit, but they said that some part was not covered. So they made me pay $1,600 out of pocket for it, and I don’t even know what they did. I'm not very happy about that, but that's the rule that they have.

Had AHS for past 2 years, and have not submitted any service request. The first issue we had was with the AC, we had our evaporator coil broken. The coil itself was under warranty, so the parts was free. But for them to come and fix it they said they will not cover other supplies and we have to pay $1200. When I got a quote from a different AC company they quoted only $900 (without the warranty). This is not what I expect from a warranty company, very disappointed.

Freezer stops working on a Sat. night, realize fridge is not also working by Sunday AM. Call American Home Shield. They send out a repairman out 3 days later on Wednesday. American Home Shield doesn't order a replacement inverter that week (they wait a week - until Tues of the following week)! They must have ordered part "ground" because it is another week before the part comes in and they schedule repairman on following Friday. So far 3 WEEKS WITHOUT A FRIDGE OR FREEZER. Repairman installs new inverter Friday. Anxiously wait 24 hr period for fridge to cool. Freezer works now, but still no fridge.
Repairman comes back on Tues (WEEK #4 NO FRIDGE) & is not allowed to order another new part until the end of the work day, so American Home Shield maybe orders part on Wed (and probably "ground" delivery again). Maybe by week 5 or 6 we will have a fully functioning fridge, or not. In the meantime, we have spent well over $200 on ice for coolers, thrown out $'s frozen-thawed food and $'s of condiments. Repairman American Home Shield hired to do the work is also frustrated with them. Definitely shopping for a new company. Feel like they American Home Shield should cover the cost of all the ice we purchased and they should be ordering replacement parts "next day air."
Updated on 09/28/2018: Wrapping up week 5, still with a non-working fridge thanks to American Home Shield's lack of response & slowest service ever. They are probably ordering a replacement part ground or snail mail in order to save themselves a couple of dollars. In the meantime we continue purchasing blocks of ice, take out food, & throwing more food away. Funny how they responded to my 1st complaint here offering to resolve my issues, but did not leave a contact name or number to reach them!
Updated on 09/28/2018: Just told by American Home Shield it will be at the end of 6 weeks of waiting, before they can install 2nd replacement part. 6 WEEKS, without use of refrigerator is totally unacceptable, don't you think?
Updated on 10/06/2018: Going on 7 weeks without a functioning fridge. Week 1: Schedule repairman to look at freezer & fridge stopped working. Week #2: Waiting for part to get ordered. Week #3: Wait for part to come in. Week #4: Repair scheduled, repairman came & went, didn't stay long enough to see if everything is working. Freezer cooling, fridge NOT. Week #5: Schedule repairman again, order another new part, American Home Shield tried to charge us for a new repair! Week #6: Wait for new part, and repairman to come. Ooops. No one told us we have to turn freezer off for 24 hrs prior to repair. Rescheduled repair for Saturday. Repairman came, again did not stay even 5 minutes to realize fridge still not cooling! Week # 7: Beginning sequence all over again. Don't know which is worse Premiere Appliance repair or American Home Shield, or the combo of them together.
Updated on 10/08/2018: Don't know which is worse; Premier Appliance Repair, or American Home Shield. AHS sent PAR to repair our fridge. We are on week #7 without a working fridge. WEEK #7!!! Neither company is making any effort to resolve this issue.

Updated on 02/20/2019: We bought our home August of last year and the dishwasher has an error code and does not work. 4 different technicians have come out since then and it still does not work. One guy ordered a part and had it sent to our house and then one from the same company came a few days later and took the part, didn't install it. Now they are telling me I have to pay another service call fee of $75 because I waited over 60 days to tell them that the service call was a failure, even though I didn't wait 60 days to call them all the other times. I had given up on having a working dishwasher. And finally, I said, "You know what, I have time to deal with them today," and then they tell me that. I refuse to pay another fee when it was never fixed the first four times. I heard so many great things about this company but I haven't experienced that. I just want a working dishwasher! Is that too much to ask for???
Original Review: We bought our first home a month ago. We got this warranty through them. Within only a month of owning our home, I am already so fed up! I put in two service requests, each a $75 fee. One for my dishwasher and oven, the other for a faucet. A guy came out and said he fixed the dishwasher and the oven, neither of them were actually fixed. Someone came and told us we needed a new faucet, so they came a few days later and replaced it, and now the sink drains extremely slow. Day before yesterday I called to tell them about the dishwasher and oven, this was before I figured out about the sink.
I was put on the phone with someone who was very hard to understand. I told her my problem and she said she had to call them and put me on hold, then she came back on and told me that I added on the oven, that the initial service call was for the dishwasher so someone will come out to fix the dishwasher for no additional fee, but I would have to create a service call for the oven. I said no, the service call was for both, I never added anything on, and he said he fixed both. So she called them again, and got back on, and then told me the same story but with the appliances reversed, that I added on the dishwasher. I said, "No, I did not add anything on, one guy came out, one appointment, one service call, said he fixed both of them, but neither are fixed."
I had to say that at least four times to get her to understand it. Then finally she said, "Okay, we will have them come out again for no additional service fee for both." I said, "Okay so now do I wait for their call to set up the appointment?" She said, "Yes." I checked my account yesterday, and it had a service call for just the dishwasher and the status was waiting for authorization or something like that. So I waited until today to call, WELL NOW THEIR WHOLE SYSTEM IS DOWN AND CAN'T EVEN LOOK INTO MY ACCOUNT. And today, the company they assigned to it and the one that came out the first time, Airboss Mechanical called to let me know they would be at my home in 25 mins for my dishwasher, THEY NEVER CALLED ME TO SET THIS APPOINTMENT. AND NO ONE IS HOME.
So I told him I needed to call American Home Shield because it's supposed to be for two appliances. That's when the phone call I spoke about happened. So I looked up the reviews on Airboss Mechanical, And there is not one good one. All complainants about American Home Shield sending them out and that they were terrible. WHY IS A COMPANY STILL SENDING AIRBOSS OUT WHEN NOBODY IS HAVING A GOOD EXPERIENCE WITH THEM. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Now I have to call them back in one-two hours and hope their system is back up.

We purchased a home warranty with American Home Shield when we purchased our new home. Within a week of moving in, we had a pipe that leaked and had water damage in our living room. We contacted the warranty company and were informed that none of the damage would be covered and the only thing that would be covered was the labor related to having a plumber sent out, but not the service fee. We asked for a plumber to be sent out only to find an email in our inbox hours later that for some reason the plumber was cancelled without any phone calls to us from the warranty service.
We therefore called to have the contract cancelled. Since it was cancelled we have been trying to get our money back. The refund check was sent by American Home Shield to our title company. Our title company says audit rules state they can not cash the check and make one out to us. So we have tried to get in contact with American Home Shield to no avail to get this taken care of. I have left messages, I have sat on hold for hours only to be hung up on, it is so frustrating to not be able to get our money back and have no one at this company care enough to call us back.

I bought my first home just a little over 9 months ago and it came with an American Home Shield Warranty. I did not really care for the warranty but only 2 days after moving in I found an issue with the electrical box in the basement, some of the breakers were loose and the lights would flicker if you touched it. This felt unsafe so I called AHS to request it be fixed. Without any of their information/ contract begin given, stated or sent to me I told them my dilemma and they immediately offered to send someone. Their contractor poked it, told me "it's definitely not right" and left me with an "I'll send my report and they will contact you."
I was confused so I called back to see what happened. The problems only got more ridiculous. I was told my contract hasn't started yet, and that the electric box was improperly installed so they would not fix it unless I paid. This was insane to me because I just moved in, I never got their contract why would no one mention they only fix things that are caused by wear and tear and how did they and the appraiser never find this issue. After about a week of constantly calling and threatening to cancel my contract due to misinformation they decided to fix the issue.
Other issues occurred over the next couple months and I did not want to call and ask for help from AHS because of the hassle of my first experience. However, at the beginning of August my Kitchen refrigerator and AC unit stopped functioning, so I wrote my list of issues, reread my contract (which was sent to me near 3 weeks after moving in) and called AHS to see what they could help me with. I was told by their customer service representative that they would send someone to check all the issues for just one service fee ($75), I have now paid 3 ($225). It has been over 4 weeks now and my AC is more broken than when I first called, I am about to be in a legal battle to get back money their contractor claimed would fix the problem but didn't and I still have no kitchen refrigerator.
NOTHING ABOUT THIS COMPANY IS EASY OR HELPFUL! Every time I call with a question or issues I am on hold for at least 45 minutes to an hour before someone picks up. I have been hung up on multiple time where I have to call back and wait again to talk to some and they claim "it must have been a technical issue." I have been patient I know it is not the customer service reps fault that they can't help me it is the company as a whole. Please save yourself the money, time and hassle, do NOT get an American Home Shield Warranty

This is the worst company ever, put on hold for at least 40 minutes at a time (They hope you will hang up). Unqualified people answering the phone, quoting irrelevant portions of your service contract. Had a plumbing issue and it required the valve to be replaced. Was told that to put in the new valve would require the piping to be changed (Modified) because it was a different size. AHS said they would pay for the installation because it was a modification. They no longer make the original valve or parts for it.
I told them to find a valve that would fit in the existing section, the plumber said any installation would require a piping modification. Again AHS states they would pay for it and tried to quote a portion of the contract that talked about manufacturer defects. This company really believes the consumer to be a idiot. I am still in a dispute over the repair and am considering a Class Action Lawsuit since AHS seems to be using this as an excuse not to pay for the repairs.
Good morning Brian,

We had to get the policy for we have a 30-year old house with a pool and we had some issues. When we bought the house, not all of the pool's components were brand new but the pool was working. The biggest problem we had was with our pool system. AHS sent out a guy and he just crossed it off and said, “Negligence, it wasn’t taken care of,” and then we had to fight to justify. It’s a long-drawn-out thing to get anything done. I have other insurance for other things and I don’t have half the problems I have with American Home Shield. They are very slow and we have to fight to get whatever coverage that we’re trying to get. We had an AHS rep come out here to look at the problem. He was suppose to be a specialist and it took him forever to get anything done.
AHS' policy doesn’t state the age. When we got Joey, the rep, he finally said, “No. They can’t do that.” It took us two and a half months before we got any money to fix something that AHS' policy says it does fix. We are already discussing whether we wanna continue another year with AHS or just put that $800 in the bank somewhere that when we have problems, we’ll just pull it out and take care of what we need to. The majority of stuff that we have done for the poo has come out of our pocket. Not from AHS. We have put over $5,000 out of our pocket into the pool and there is still more that needs to be done. It’s very upsetting for us because if there is anything that looks older, AHS doesn’t want to touch it. Just go for new homes, if that’s all AHS wants to repair.
You can get warranties in the store where you buy it. In that sense, I’m not impressed that it has to be a battle. I’ve had appliance coverage before in our previous home and I didn’t have the hassles that I had with AHS. I thought it was gonna be the same thing - you just pick up the phone, tell them you got a problem with this and they work with you. We thought that this would be a great thing. It’s not like we will call AHS every time there is a $75 and then we will have hassles. Who wants to go through that if you’re a consumer? It can’t be like that. The part of the company that is trying to justify claims and turns them down is too aggressive to the point where they’re hurting the company.
Joey is very personal and listens and I appreciate that. When he came in, he was helpful but it took quite a while. Sometimes, communication wasn’t always there at the end. With dealing with Joey, it has gotten better. I get that he’s going on a honeymoon, but there are also things going with the company or saying, “This is going to be a little delayed.” He didn’t say that at first. The communication was there, but he was new to this area too so I’m sure there was a lot to get adjusted to the area. But without him, we would have asked for a total refund within our 30 days.
We like the service of the air conditioner contractor, Integrity Conditioners. They were very polite. However, we we did not like the guy that AHS sent here for the pool so at that point, Joey let us choose who we wanted to work on our pool. We finally found a good pool company and it was Pinch A Penny. They’ve been around for a long time and they knew what they were doing. When you are new to an area, you don’t know all and everything. You just notice their stuff until you start using them. That’s trial and error. We tried the company before Pinch A Penny and they were not that knowledgeable. They helped us for a little bit, but it wasn’t enough to do what we needed with the pool. We’ve never had a pool before that’s why we also thought when we pay the extra $100 for the pool service we wouldn’t need what that knowledge meant.
There needs to be a check and balance and say, “Okay. The first year are to they’re in the house. Yes, it’s gonna be a little bit more, but that’s to be understandable until they get settled. But then if they’re happy with the insurance, then we’ll keep them for years.” They will profit and put more money in. AHS needs to look at their service. Don’t do it as a dangling little carrot and then not really stand behind what they are saying, and AHS needs to re-evaluate the pamphlet versus the policy because the impression is different. When we first started going through the houses, I called my realtor and said, “Don’t recommend American Home Shield.” She was thinking of getting it herself for her own house. However, the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.

My air conditioner was blowing hot air and it was no longer cooling. I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. The process was simple for the most part but I had to speak to somebody about the electrical issue I had at the same time. I like being able to set up appointments online but sometimes it’s good to talk to somebody to make sure I have all the information that I need.
AHS's reps have been very nice and the contractors that they sent out have been good. Usually, their contractor would contact me within a reasonable amount of time. If it’s emergency related like the air conditioner, I call them directly. The contractor who came out was nice, very thorough and he’s been here before. He's been really good about explaining everything. He finished repairing the air conditioner within an hour and it was well done. Our air conditioner works much better since the repair. I recommended AHS to both of my sons.

American Home Shield stands behind everything they say they’re gonna do, and they make things transpire with ease. They don’t give you a runaround. Their claims representatives have always been dynamite since I’ve had them. I called to submit a claim for my AC and they had Air Supply Services come out. The tech ended up not having to charge me. The Freon leaked, but it was just a pinhole, and he said it wasn’t even worth it that he didn’t bill me.
The only problem I haven’t resolved is my garage door. 495 Garage Door came out to the property when I was having some garage problems with the door not shutting. I would hit the remote control, go out, and then the garage door would go right back up. And so, I had 495 Garage Door take a look at it to find out what the problem was. They said the only thing that I was having issues with are the sensors. This has happened twice, but I still have the issue. So, I have no idea what the resolution would be. I thought that getting a new garage door that was insulated would make a big difference. The guy that was here ended up selling me an insulated garage door, which seemed reasonable because the one that was there was paper-thin, and it had a few dents in it. However, I don’t see a difference. I just see that it’s heavier and has insulation. I’m not that pleased with that. I felt like I spent a lot of money for something that didn’t help.
Still, AHS is the best insurance company in the world. They do a good job vetting. Every contractor that’s come out from AHS has always been professional and A1 rated. American Home Shield is not overly expensive and so it’s worth the small investment. It’s reasonable. So, by the time you’ve paid off your membership in a year, sometimes that could be one appliance, and it makes a big deal.

American Home Shield sent over a technician and his son when I submitted a claim to them for our garage door that didn't work. They came in, fixed the problem and made sure to leave in good repair. They were great, punctual and quick. In terms of my interaction with AHS' customer service, it has been up and down though. It's very easy to submit claims but very difficult to follow up in certain circumstances. When we had a stove-top range that they also sent a guy out on, it was determined that the range needed to be replaced but I waited on hold cumulatively for five hours.
At the end of that process, they gave me a recommendation for a stove-top range, but the way that the stove-top range needed to be installed, I would have to remove my countertop and oven then find a different place for the oven. I told them it was completely not viable but then it went through with more and more. I ended up saying that we would just take the cash and buy one, but it would cost me $500 more 'cause I have to pay for the installation. I was ticked off about that one, but that was the only negative experience I've had. American Home Shield has been a great investment of money.

The representatives at American Home Shield have been very helpful. When we had an issue, the people that we talked to went and investigated it and then got back to us promptly. So I've been very satisfied with them. We've had both motors on the condenser outside replaced. One claim was filed online and one was over the phone. Both of them were equally simple. I also usually get a fairly quick response time from the contractor. For the refrigerator and ice maker, I had some really horrible contractors. But for the air conditioning, I've had some great contractors.
The first time I had a claim for the air conditioner, they made the repair right then and there. The second time, there were some issues. They said they had to order a part and then they were gonna get back to us. But they didn’t get back to us that day and said that they had no intention of coming back that day. That was when the American Home Shield people got involved with the contractor directly. They had the contractor come back the next day and replace the part. The air conditioner is a really old unit but it has been working. The warranty is definitely worth it, especially with the air conditioners here in Las Vegas. What we pay for the charges for the home warranty is more than made up for by what would have been the cost for a repair independently or even a new system.

I most recently had a claim filed with American Home Shield for an air conditioner repair. I submitted the claim online and their site was very useful and helpful. But one of the things that they need to put into account is when you make the call and you're speaking to a representative, one of the first things they ask you for is your phone number. The phone number should not only be used for verification. However, if the line is cut, it's best to check who you're speaking to, to call back the number because if they don't do that, sometimes the whole time is 40 minutes and 30 minutes. That means you have to start over from scratch.
I had an experience in one day, where one call took me almost two hours. I have various properties and I don't have that time in the day just to make one call to American Home Shield. And even after the first tech, after the phone died, they never called me back. When I got on the phone for the second tech, I went and told him. When that call was dropped also, he never called back. All they have is a company-wide policy to not call back. So then the customer would have to start over from scratch. And a lot of times, we're on our cell phones and making these calls. If the call had been dropped, they should call back. So the customer can speak to the same person and continue the conversation from where they stopped, rather than have to start over, back on hold for 30 minutes and get somebody on the phone again.
Also, another thing that has to do with them not calling back is that I called on one occasion and the rep was trying to help me schedule an appointment with one of the contractors. At that time, it was past 6:00 and she said they were closed then and that they would come first thing the following morning. She said she would get in contact with them and would get back to me but I haven't heard from her till date.
Outside that, I got a very good company. They took care of my problem. But there was this technician that before they came to my house, I told him that one of my AC units in my personal home was not working. I told him it was not an emergency, it wasn't working out like as it was fixed. However, the weekends work great for me because I run a business during the week. But he said they don't do that and that they save their weekends for emergency calls only. So, at the end of the day, it was scheduled for a weekday, where I had to go through so many just to make it there because they couldn't accommodate for the weekend.
Also, the AC technician that came to my first property to fix the air conditioner said that because the box on the wall was blank, it had no power. I needed to call electrical to come and verify power to the box before we came back. I said that if they could wait, I would come there put the batteries but he said he was not gonna wait if I do that. I went back, I put the batteries in, and the box was working. When I called them back, they said they were not gonna come back, unless an electrician comes in and say it was not a power problem. That was a week's wait. I waited for a week and the electrician came in for 30 seconds and said that it was not a power problem and that there was power to that thing.
Then, the AC guy came. It was 30 minutes and was a waste of money and time. They said there was power to the box and that there was nothing he would do. But that puts the customers up in such a difficult situation because I have a rental property and these people were pressuring me. Every time I called the technician back, they would say American Home Shield did not say my claim was gonna be expedited. But the first one was expedited. and the problem is still not fixed. One common sense tell you that that one was expedited and they said it was not and that I had to call AHS. At the end of the day, I finally requested for different technician. They came and they were awesome. They did the job like they were supposed to. But that going back and forth with some companies feel like they don't have to do the work and they're still gonna get paid.
I don't feel like that first technician should be reimbursed for what he did but there was nobody to talk to. Everybody you talk to would say they understand but it really didn't change anything. AHS don't realize and I don't know if they pay extra on expedited calls. But I was getting the run-around between the electrical company and the AC company, that everything else should be expedited. I was waiting a week each for the technician to come back. They should give me a courtesy. I'm talking about going into three weeks of getting an AC fix in Las Vegas where it's 110 degrees. But everything is fixed now. Also, I recently had a tech on my personal property and he was don in less than 15 minutes. It was no hassle and stress and it was an awesome service. If anyone asks about AHS, I would tell them that it's a home warranty company that is good to have.

I've been with American Home Shield for 10 years now and I'm thinking of switching companies because I would be paying the same money and other companies cover Freon.

I had a whole house policy previous to American Home Shield. I was with two different companies because neither of the companies would cover all of my equipment and I had to pay per piece. I had to pay $5 a month for my refrigerator, $5 a month for my stove and $5 a month for my washer, and certain other companies would not cover certain brands. For example, I bought a house and we had a Sub-Zero refrigerator in the kitchen and Sears won't cover Sub-Zero. So, I had to go to PSE&G to cover it, and it got a little confusing because I had some of the insurance at one company and some of the insurance at another.
A friend recommended American Home Shield, so I went to them. Then within a couple of months, the summer came out and we put on the air conditioner, but it really wasn't getting cold. I have two air conditioning units in my house and it was the in-wall unit that I had called American Home Shield about. The website was very convenient and it was very easy to make the appointment. I put in the claim and the contractor that American Home Shield sent came in to take a look at my air conditioner. The response was immediate but I had to pay $100 just to make the appointment, while with some of the other companies there was no charge.
For example, I had a problem with my refrigerator and American Home Shield has not taken hold yet so I still called the old company to come in. They came in and looked at my refrigerator, and there was no charge. They had to order a part and again, there was no charge. The guy had to come back a second time to install the part and then he found out the part that was sent was wrong. He re-ordered the part and came back a third time, yet I never paid a dime which was terrific.
Still, the contractor that American Home Shield sent for my air conditioner showed up and the guy was very knowledgeable and nice. He looked at the air conditioner and decided that I needed Freon. He then told me, however, that it was not covered so I wound up having to pay for that. If I never had any insurance and called a regular repair guy, I suspect the cost would have been close to the price I paid. American Home Shield is pretty expensive, but the difference is they cover everything. On the other hand, they were very quick to take my money. Once the contractor got here and I had already paid for the service call, I had him look at the other air conditioner as well. However, while the first one that I called them about is working fine now, the other unit is working worse.

It was also struggling to get the temperature that was required. I had AHS come and service it by setting up the claim with them online. Using their site was very easy. The young man who came knew what he was doing. He cleaned things up and got my AC going. All the problems were resolved then and the work was done very professionally. Since the service, my bill has been better. Furthermore, it now has no problem getting the right temperature. Overall, having AHS' warranty is a good investment to secure your appliances.

A few months ago, I filed a claim to American Home Shield for two appliances for repair. One was a range that was leaking. A part of it was replaced and it's fine now. The other one was a dishwasher that leaked. The same contractor came out but he had to come back a couple of times because it was a tricky thing. Rather than replacing the whole unit, which is new, he tried to fix it the best he could and he did. And now, we just have periodic issues. It's the way it was designed. The contractor explained that there's probably a flaw with something inside that if the rubber doesn't fold in a certain way, it will leak. And we're seeing it happening now so we have to try to make sure it folds right when we're closing the door. I've spoken to a couple of their reps on different times and they were fine. The contractor who came was very good. He explained everything to me. I'd tell others that American Home Shield is good to have.

We didn’t hear from the contractor for about two days which was not a problem because we made it clear it wasn’t a major issue. Nonetheless, the contractor came out and diagnosed the problem. They were very knowledgeable, nice and on time. They said they had to order a part which would take 5 to 10 days. It took close to two and a half weeks but they kept us informed and it wasn’t their fault, it was just getting the shipment. We had very few claims with AHS but they’ve always been responsive. My heat and air unit was over 30 years old and it wasn’t cooling down. It had its quirks and it got to where it wasn’t working real good. I filled out an online deal with American Home Shield and Air Pro Services contacted me. I had good interactions with the technician who came out and he listened to what I had to say about the system. He checked out the system, went out and looked at it, did some things then came back and said that he could get it fixed, but it would just breakdown again. So, American Home Shield shipped a new unit to Air Pro in two weeks from the day that the tech came. Then they came back and took roughly a day and a half to install it. I'm fairly happy with American Home Shield and I've already referred them to a couple of my friends.

We had had some bad weather and our lights flickered for 10 seconds, just enough to throw off the coffee pot and all the clocks. It was around 4th of July and we were having a 4th of July party. When we went to turn out lights on outside, the plug didn’t work. We have two outlets and neither one of them worked. It was very frustrating, so we called American Home Shield. The only thing that I did not like is we had a different home warranty company at our older house and we would always pay the technician the service fee. With American Home Shield, when I placed the order, the rep asked, “Do you wanna pay now?” I said no and that I was not paying for service that I hadn’t received yet. Then, we got an email stating we owe $100 which we could pay online by clicking a button and we paid then. We would have paid the gentleman directly or if they called us immediately after the repairman's service ticket had been transmitted.
Other than that, they sent a technician out a day or two later and we went around and checked in the house. What we did not realize, because we had only been in the house a matter of months, was that in the garage on the wall that goes into the house, there was one of those plugs with the little red that you hit for test and reset and all that. That had popped. When the guy came, all he did was look, went directly to it, pushed it in, went outside, and the outlets worked. They were receiving power. It was a $100 trip for pushing the button. The tech was wonderful and he was very personable, professional, and nice. He apologized when he pushed it and it worked. We told him it was not his fault and that no one knew.

Once filed claims are further delayed and AHS refuses to put in writing the work they are paying for or what products their contractors will be installing. To say working with AHS has been a nightmare would be putting it lightly. Before I even moved into my new home, they had messed up my account. Apparently they mixed my account up with someone else and made changes to my account without letting me know. I had paid for 2 yrs, but saw that they were only honoring 1 yr on my account. I was told that "someone" had called and made changes, but they could not tell me who. I asked where the extra $320 went, and they said a refund was mailed to my title co. This was back at the beginning of July and I still have yet to receive a refund.
I have called multiple times and have been assured the check is in the mail, but they cannot tell me to what address. I've also requested they send the check directly to my house, but they said they cannot do that. This has been the worst experience possible. Long story short is I was highly dissatisfied with the failure to resolve an issue regarding my replacement clothes washer, and as a result, cancelled my contract after being with them for four years. They were inflexible when it came to providing adequate customer service. In all fairness, prior to this cancellation, I would say we were fairly pleased with their service, for the most part.

A friend recommended I go with American Home Shield as my home warranty provider due to an overwhelming positive experience with the company. My AC went out and my initial interaction with American Home Shield was pleasant and productive. An HVAC professional contacted me the next morning. They were able to come out within 48 hours. The HVAC professional was unable to solve the problem. Very long, arduous and drawn story later, one month 2 HVAC professionals and 2 electricians out to my home and the AC is no closer to being fixed.
This has been a most troublesome experience. What is most bothersome to me is I have had to contact some of the professionals personally, the long wait times over the phone and lack of flexibility in service times. I am very disappointed in the service and lack of problem solving I have received from American Home Shield. As a first time homeowner, I am extremely overwhelmed interacting with American Home Shield.

I called the AHS on 7/23 regarding my GE Gas range. The contractor came the same day and told me he has to order the parts and it can take up to 10 days. Since then I am still waiting and today is 9/19. The part kept getting back ordered. The part was supposed to be delivered on 9.21 but I just got a call and left a message that now it's back ordered to 10.15. I am very frustrated as it's been 2 months and I can't use my range. We been using microwave and toaster oven with 2 little kids and it's very hard. We been eating out a lot which can be expensive as well. We had AHS for long time but this time the service is horrible.

For some reason, the AC worked fine when I turned it on. But then all of a sudden, it started leaking water like crazy, and it flooded the floor that it’s on. So, as soon as I saw the water coming out, I called American Home Shield. A guy came in and he explained to me that it just needed to be flushed, and that next time, all I need is to put hot water so it will flush all the dirt through. Everything’s working fine now. So far, up to now, my experiences with American Home Shield's service have been excellent. I always get results. I haven’t had any problem or issues, and usually, the person that they tell me that’s gonna be coming here are very good and polite, and they fix everything right away.

My AC unit was freezing up. I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield and they called me right away for the claim. They set up an appointment and sent out a contractor company. But then, the company they sent out said that my unit needed to be replaced. They never got back to me and never sent a report to American Home Shield.
I called AHS back after two weeks and they sent out another company. Conversely, the second company they sent was very professional. Their technician came out, did something and got my AC going. However, it started freezing up again. I called up the contractor again and about a week later, he brought a motor. In the meantime, the contractor kept calling me and saying he hadn't forgotten me. Though the contractor put a new motor in, it has been freezing again too.
It's been over a month that I haven't had AC. So what I had to end up doing in order for me to stay in my house was to put in some window units. I took some panes out of my windows, and put in two window units. That kinda kept the house cool enough for me to live in. Even so, I still have not gotten that problem totally resolved with the AC unit. Nevertheless, I appreciate AHS and I would suggest other people to get their warranty.

When the refrigerator stopped cooling, I submitted my claim with American Home Shield online and the website was pretty good. However, they sent one guy out who said he couldn’t fix it, then they sent another guy out but again he couldn’t fix it. It took them three times to get somebody out there that could fix it so the repair took three and a half weeks. Luckily, I had a second refrigerator so it wasn’t too bad. The contractor who got the job done was knowledgeable. He came in, knocked it out real quick and got out. I’d recommend American Home Shield. I just got a new house and I just signed on with them again. It’s the best home warranty company I’ve ever had.

The service guy showed me what the problem was and then he left and got the part, came back and fixed it.
I'm able to get stuff fixed with American Home Shield, but I wish it was a lot persistent with the coverage within the home. When I had a claim for my garage door, AHS told me it wasn't covered. The motor in it went out and I had to pay almost $300 for it. I felt that if I was paying all that money for the home warranty, it should be covered.

I had an issue with my dryer. I submitted a claim with AHS and the representative I talked to was pretty good. She called in the order and got an appliance man out here pretty quickly. It was perfect. But once the tech came out, he told me that I just had to hold these two buttons down and it’d clear the lock on the dryer. Before he came. I tried everything and pressed the buttons where he showed me, but I didn’t press them at the same time. It was crazy. He also told me that I should have looked online and it would’ve explained to me how to do it.
So I sent my service fee for nothing, but it was not AHS' fault. The tech was very good. My washer also broke down a month before and he fixed that, too. And he was very nice, so because the washer and dryer are a set, when I called AHS for the dryer, I asked for the same guy and the same company. I have my AHS warranty for a couple of months now. I have the pool thing on it and I like it. I feel secure with something like this and as far as things that need to be done when they break down, I feel comfortable that I can call and I’ll get them serviced. I like AHS and I’ve been recommending them.

We've had a lot of claims with American Home Shield in the last couple of months. Unfortunately, our house seems to be falling a little bit apart. One time, all of a sudden, our air conditioning, on one of the hottest days of the year, stopped working. I submitted the claim online but our thing broke over the weekend and AHS didn't get back to me until Monday. But they have great customer service. They contract out a lot of the work, so they don't necessarily have a lot of information directly about the contractors, but they've always been great with giving me an estimate to when they were gonna be returning my calls. If the contractor does not arrive or does not call in time, they've been fantastic about following up with me.
We've had a whole of stuff gone and having American Home Shield has been a great peace of mind to know that we're not gonna be put in an extreme amount of debt or just being able to have somebody we can count on to send out a repair person. This is our first time buying a home, so it has been a huge relief for us. Any time that I have a friend who's buying a home, I tell them they need to get a home warranty and that American Home Shield is great because it has saved us thousands of dollars.

I've been happy overall with American Home Shield but a little dissatisfied with the last company they sent out. We had an AC issue that started about a month ago. The last company that came out fixed my starter, got my AC running, but then it quit running one night and made weird noises. So I called them 'cause they come back out for 60 days for free. We went without AC for a good day and a half, before they could get out there, and it was hot. They sent a young gentleman out and he told me that there was some part in the bottom needed to be replaced because it froze over, which is a huge deal wrong. I would also have to have all the Freon taken out then they would replace the part, and I'd have to pay for all the Freon to be put back in. I said, "Okay," so they ordered the part and called me a week later. My AC has been fine ever since. So, American Home Shield is great but sometimes I don't care for the companies they send out.

We have American Home Shield on a rental property in Mammoth Lakes and we live in about 300 miles away from it. If anything goes wrong, we cannot always go up and take care of it. AHS has really been a valuable asset getting along with our rentals and with the remoteness of our property. I use their website all the time if I can and it is quite easy to navigate. I've used the insurance over three times since we had the property in five years, and AHS was very good in all of my experiences.
When I submitted a claim through their website for my microwave problem, AHS was very, very fast in getting a contractor out. The guys were out here in a few days and they were good people. They couldn't repair the microwave right away because it had a broken part that was too expensive to repair. So they had to order a replacement, which they did quite judiciously. It took a little longer because it had to go through all of the hoops of the system. But they did reorder a replacement and they replaced it when they got the part within a week.

When R & R Allstar Electric came out to service a fan, they took a part off and hooked it up so we could use it via light switch, and that part was fine. But then they said they had to order a part and it took almost a month. Every time I called, they said the part hadn't been ordered. Then once the part had been ordered, I told them to call me when it comes in but I did not hear anything. So I called then they sent someone out. But the gentleman indicated that he just had to go pick up the part at the store. They never ordered the part like they had told me and were dragging me out for a whole month. They lied to me and not just once, but every time I called to ask concerning the part. Why couldn't they be upfront and say they could just send a guy to Home Depot or Lowe's to pick up the part?
Also, R & R serviced the fan once and then wanted $140 to put the part back on it. They said they couldn't work on the fan because it was on my lanai and it wasn't covered under my plan with American Home Shield. The guy who was here called American Home Shield to verify if the fan was covered and the person there said it wasn't. Apparently, the first guy didn't tell American Home Shield that it was a lanai fan. When he was here, he went out to his truck and called American Home Shield to make sure the part was covered. When he came in, he suggested it was. But only inside fans are covered. The first person who authorized the work must have assumed it was an inside fan. So it was partly R & R's fault. It was a fiasco.
We got American Home Shield on the phone and I explained to them how very upset I was. I had read what comments people had said previously about R & R and I don't understand why American Home Shield is still using them. My recommendation for American Home Shield is to find another electrical company because this company was horrible to work with. We were not happy with them at all. R & R had terrible service but Total Air Care, on the other hand, was an awesome company.
The draining system was clogged up and the AC was leaking water. So I filed a claim with American Home Shield online, which was easy. Then Total Air Care came out in two days. They called ahead of time saying they would be here within the next 20 minutes to half an hour and they were here on time. The technician was also able to solve the problem and take care of it. It had not worked when he was trying the first time. But I liked that he didn't give up. He kept working at it and the third time was a lucky charm. The company had great service and were excellent.

An appointment has been set but it's not until Friday because that's the earliest they can get to me. On top of that, I'm very dissatisfied because it took me a whole week to even get someone to answer the phone. American Home Shield kept me on hold for five hours. I left that phone laying there and the recording was saying something about the next available person. Then when I called back, I got the same thing. I called back again but it was still the same thing. I had to go through billings and say I wanted to pay my bill to get anybody to answer. I had to have someone else to come out and turn my water off so my water bill wouldn't keep going up.

Another time, my garage door thing wasn't working. I thought it was broken. But then, my daughter who's electronically gifted actually got it working. So, I told the contractor sent by AHS that my door was working again and I haven't been having any trouble with it. Still, they were ready to come out and take care of things. They went ahead and cancelled the appointment for me. I've had AHS since January. Before that, I ended up having to replace an expensive water heater and also dealt with a problem with my dryer. We had a very unfortunate experience with the American Home Shield insurance company and their sub-contractor Malangone Mechanical LLC. We’ve requested a water tank replacement on July 6th. The Malangone Mechanical demanded an additional payment of $398 for the “modification” job. After reading other reviews for this company, we found that it’s been done by this company many times – additional payments, even though the insurance covers the full job. And we should’ve checked the reviews for this company prior agreeing to work with them – it’s the worst company ever we dealt with. We are very disappointed in the American Home Shield insurance company since they not screen their sub-contractors. And after so many complaints about this company, they should’ve stopped dealing with this company.
After back and forth, we paid the requested amount, just to resolve the issue. The job was performed on July 25th by Malangone Mechanical LLC. Then the troubles began: The old water tank was not removed after the job was done – the removal required more than 1 person and we were told that it will be done in a few days once they have 2-3 people available to remove tank. Today is 2 months later – the tank has not been removed. Malangone Mechanical LLC gave us different excuses why it has not been done, and still there is no firm date when it will be removed.
At the same time, the American Home Shield insurance company has tried to charge us twice for the technician visit. We had to call them 3 times to fight the charge, every time spending on the phone over 1 hour. As of now the charge has been removed, and we hope it will not appear on our account again. We received no help from the American Home Shield insurance company to resolve the tank removal issue – they’ve taken the sub-contractor site. We will never use the service of the American Home Shield insurance company and we would like to warn others to stay away from this company.

A/C stopped working. First tech said that it was low on Freon, because of a leak. In order to find the leak it would result in loss of Freon which I would have to pay $70 per lb to replace. System capacity is 9 lbs 8 ozs. I told him I do not feel that I should have to pay for replacement of all the Freon that is lost during a check to find a leak. He then recommended a charge of 3 lbs. to bring unit back up to proper working order. I said why should I put in 3 lbs of Freon at $70 per lb knowing it will leak out in just a few weeks. He had no response to that.
A second tech was sent out from a different company. He told me practically the same thing, but when I asked him about checking for the leak he refused to do it. His only suggestion was to charge the system with 3 lb of freon. As was stated in an earlier post, American Home Shield will not replace an A/C unit unless the cost of repair exceeds the cost of a new unit. Their phone support is terrible. The only reason I have the plan is that we insisted on some sort of warranty plan when we purchased the home. What a mistake. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.
Updated on 09/21/2018: Your response, which is the most common reply you have to people who have problems with your service was, "A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible?" How does that help me? A social media specialist cannot fix my A/C. That reply is typical of the service received from AHS. I've had 2 service techs from different companies here and both insist on putting Freon into the system. There is a leak, so why would I want to pay $165 to put Freon into the system and then have it leak out in a week or 2?

My sister purchased a comprehensive home warranty with AHS this past spring. She's on a teacher's salary and this was her lifeline for failures in her small home. She contacted AHS OVER 9 weeks ago when her refrigerator went out. After two service calls, the company said the parts "were on order." She has followed up with them many many times and had to purchase a small dorm-sized refrigerator as AHS REFUSES to replace the item!!! OVER NINE weeks. She finally got a hold of Shelley as an escalation manager. Shelley said she'd reimburse her for the small one and has yet to do so.
As of yesterday, the contracted vendor said ONE part came in but admitted the other part is STILL on backorder. I was on hold with George, with strong Indian accent, who said he was escalating to his manager, who he didn't know his name. He disconnected me!!! I'm hold now for over 40 minutes!!! What does it take to get a replacement when repairs are NEVER going to happen?!? Read their website -- they talk about the security of having products repaired or replaced quickly. IT'S GOING ON THREE MONTHS!!!

They show up in AM and we are not there. I call and was told they would come back out before 5. By 4:30 called and said plumber was still not on way so rescheduled to Monday 8-11. No show again so I called Value Rooter again and was told plumber was on another job and would be out later. I received email at 1:56 stating "Larry" was on his way. Waited 1 1/2 hours and called again to see where Larry was. Was put on hold and then told I needed to reschedule.
We do not live full time at this house and it is an hour from our perm. residence and I had already driven out twice. I contacted Am. Home Shield called Value Rooter and they said they showed up and I was not home however they failed to mention that they showed up at the wrong time. In addition Value Rooter said they have been calling me and that I was not answering my phone which is total lie. I was told since I was assigned to this plumber, Home Shield refused to reassign me to another plumber. Horrible customer service by both Value Rooter and Am. Home Shield.
