My toilet was not flushing properly so I filed a claim with AHS over the phone. The contractor was fast because he was able to come out on a weekend. He was also very knowledgeable and got everything working. One thing I don’t like is that sometimes, it takes a while to get approvals for something. That can slow things down but I guess that’s unavoidable. Sometimes AHS also sends out somebody who’s not trained to deal with the problem. So then I have to call them back and they have to send a different company out. That has also slowed things down on some projects over the years. If they can do anything about that, that will be great. Other than that, no, it’s been good. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and some experiences have been better than others. There have been some ups and some downs but my most recent experiences have been good.

We called American Home Shield for a claim and the rep took the information. It took a couple of days to send the contractor out and when he arrived, he spent a fair amount of time checking out the problem. It started off as a plumbing issue but it turned out to be a problem with the cooler. Since then, it has been working well. Everybody did a good job and the experience was great with American Home Shield. You will never know what’s gonna jump up and that’s why you have insurance.

I had a refrigerator issue so I submitted a claim with AHS online and it has been easy. I really love the system. It’s very satisfactory to me. But it got a little complicated because the contractor they sent the first time didn’t realize it was AHS. The contractor said we got to do this and that and it was going to cost us so much. So I had to call back and AHS sent somebody else later to do the work according to their rules, not his rules. The performance of AHS has always been excellent. I recommend them to everybody now.

Our air conditioner stopped running so we called American Shield. In a very short manner, a company came out and took care of the problem. The claim process of AHS was very simple and the contractors sent were also good. They were very professional, friendly and they have a good demeanor. However, we left for a weekend and when we came back, the AC did not run. So we called American Shield again, and the company came back out. We found out that we had rats under the house who chewed the wiring, which was a separate problem from the original, which was unforeseen before. The contractors took care of it and we haven’t had any problem since. I’m totally happy with American Home Shield. They seem concerned about good work and good products.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was the replacement of our pump on our pool. The pump was not circulating the water in the pool at all. I went to the website and it was easy to maneuver and very user-friendly. I submitted the claim and the process was quick. A contractor came out in about 4 days and he was claiming that it was an electrical problem. So, when they replaced the part, they actually replaced it with a broken part. Then, on my own, I had to get ahold of an electrical contractor to come out and verify that it was not an electric issue and that it in fact was the pool pump that was the problem. So, there were several steps that I had to do that I wouldn’t have thought would’ve been my responsibility. Nevertheless, the pump is operating well now.

If you are new to a house and are concerned that there would be issues with things you don’t know about, then I would recommend having an American Home Shield warranty. But once you get past that first year, I don’t know that I would re-up the warranty. There are so many things about a repair that are not covered. For instance, we had a pipe burst in the wall and the repair covers coming out and cutting a giant hole in my wall and fixing the faucet. But then I’m responsible for the repair of the wall. Any damage or anything that’s secondary to the repair is required to be paid on your own. Still, the American Home Shield warranty is a good add-on for a real estate purchase for the first year to cover some of the things that maybe the previous homeowner didn’t disclose.

I have an American Home Shield account on two properties. One is a beach summer house down in South Carolina and then I have my primary home in Virginia. There were a couple of things that we called American Home Shield on for the one in South Carolina. One was a roof deck fan and the other was a plumbing leak. And then the other one was for a dryer. And if you’re gonna deal with American Home Shield you gotta deal with them online because if you’re on the phone, you’ll be there forever.

I had a good experience submitting a claim to AHS. But there were two problems that we have experienced. One was one of the techs did not show but American Home Shield very quickly got another tech. The vendor that didn’t show didn’t understand the nature of the problem. It was a loose attic ventilation fan, so when they found out that it was on the roof, the guy said, “All right, our insurance doesn’t cover roof works.” They thought it was an exhaust fan that went out. They had a system problem during this time and they really adjusted to that really well.

And the only other issue was initially, I have been taking half the fees but two policies on my American Express card and they were also charging my Express card for the 75 bucks fixed fee for the guy that comes out. When they were doing that, they didn’t automatically charge that to my credit card. They got a little confused. And then added to the confusion was that the tech who didn’t show up. And that was the time their information system was down. But they did a good job with what they did. Also, the interactions with the techs were good. I like the people who were coming. They get to work, clean up after themselves, and leave and whatever they fix works. All the techs I’ve ever dealt with through AHS has always been very good people. I’ve recommended American Home Shield to a couple of friends.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for many years and I’ve had one problem with them. I have a townhome where they had to replace the outside AC unit which was not performing as it should. The tenant told me about it and mentioned it to the contractor, but after that, they didn’t complain to me right away. I was two days past the date of AHS having someone come back out to re-check it, and I had to pay the service fee again which I felt like was unfair because it was a new unit. Because it was under warranty for a year, I had to go back to the manufacturer. The manufacturer wouldn’t talk to me as they would only talk with American Home Shield or the company that installed it. The company that installed it wouldn’t do it because they said American Home Shield purchased the unit.

I spent about 20 hours on the phone trying to resolve that. Because I didn’t want the tenant to be uncomfortable any longer, I just paid the fee again. But it was awful trying to communicate with someone. Many times, they were foreigners and that’s okay, but I was not understanding what they were saying and I got the runaround. It was my worst experience yet. I felt like that they should’ve paid me for the time I spent on the phone, but they would not take care of the fee. Nevertheless, I recently made an online claim for the dishwasher and the refrigerator and it was easy. The response time was great and the tech that came was very professional.

Our tankless water heater kept cutting off and not running properly. We couldn't get the setting set right on it. I submitted a claim online and then I ended up calling them directly. The representative was nice and took care of what I needed to have. American Home Shield sent out one contractor originally then they sent a second for second opinion. They took the second opinion and ended up replacing the unit. I was home the whole time the contractors were there and they were really good. Having a home warranty through American Home Shield is good when you're buying a new house. You never know what's gonna happen if it's an older home. The warranty depends on what you have in your house now and what condition everything is in.

I had a plumbing issue and I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. The experience was fine when I talked to the rep but AHS needs help with their system especially for somebody calling in. It takes a long time to get a representative and you might be on the phone 30 minutes to an hour trying to talk to somebody. I had a service coupon last time and I called them before to make sure they applied the coupon before they put the service call. They were sitting there paying through the nose twice and I was aggravated with that because it was like one hand didn't know what the other hand was doing. Other than that, it was okay and just a lot of follow-ups trying to get that straightened out. The contractor came out the first time and didn't fix my problem. He came back and everything is fine now after the second trip. I also submitted a claim for my stove and American Home Shield had that unit fixed.

There was an issue with my dishwasher and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone. They then sent out a repairman from Sears who gave us a certain time and he was here on time. He looked at the dishwasher and he said that the motor was burned out, then he called AHS. He was very polite and he answered any questions I wanted. He also put everything back the way he got it so I wouldn't have a mess in the kitchen. He was here for about an hour and then left. AHS couldn't find a motor because it's not made anymore, so they gave me a replacement which is the same model but newer. Sometimes though when I call AHS, there’s a bit of a wait. One time, I was on the phone for about an hour but besides that, we're satisfied with the American House Shield and I'd recommend them to anybody. In fact, I'm trying to get my son and my daughter and her husband to look into it.

The dryer wasn’t drying and when I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, it went smoothly. This was my first time using the service and I had a good interaction with the contractors. The first young man that came out diagnosed the situation. Then, he came back a few days later with the part and put it back together. However, he apparently missed a step because it wasn't working correctly and it was still just as bad as before. AHS had to send another guy out. He was an older gentleman who opened it up and figured out what the other guy missed. It has been working fine and I had no trouble with it since.

The experience with AHS has been good and I would recommend friends to seriously look into it. Nowadays, if you have a home and with all the stuff we have, it kinda makes sense. It doesn't make sense if you're gonna get the extended warranty on everything you have in the home, but in place of extended warranty, something like this is a great idea.

It was summertime and our air conditioner was out. We called AHS and I specifically requested their contractor, Bevills, that I happen to know is a reputable company. We were trying to get our problem solved and they had 24-hour service which they don’t charge extra for. The person that I dealt with at AHS said they would turn that in and tell the contractors to give me a call. Nobody gave me a call, so I called AHS back and they said they had turned it in. Then, I called Bevills and they didn't see that they have gotten that. It ended up being a couple of days before the tech got our air conditioner fixed. The tech came over and he had to order a part. I was kind of aware that that might be how that would go that was why I was trying to get them out immediately. But I understood it was just a whole big miscommunication thing there.

Also, we had a leak in our air conditioner recently, so I backed up in there. But there were terrible things about the contractor that didn’t make me happy. They didn’t haul off any of their trash from up there and I know that it wasn’t there before. Also, there were some other things going on with our air conditioner. The tech didn’t put it back together the way it should have been put back together. And then there was another issue with the system itself. I just wish I had known ahead of time because I could have got it backed up there to address it whether or not it was something covered by the warranty or not. We had another experience with AHS that was horrible and I don’t know why we just didn’t change. We probably should’ve at that time. I still have that bad taste in my mouth. It was another air conditioning issue and it has been a long time, but it was handled horribly. And that was all AHS, not even the contractor.

American Home Shield has fixed everything that I’ve had a problem with. When I submit claims with them, I sometimes do it online, but I also like to call since it moves more quickly to me, and the reps that I've talked to are good. When the air conditioner wasn't cooling, their contractors went out and looked at the line. Then they thought they got it fixed, but it still didn't cool. So they came back out and they found what the problem was and the unit was gonna have to be replaced. It took them a week and a couple of days from the first claim, to getting American Home Shield back and getting an approval, until the third claim and getting my air conditioner installed. They move so quickly in getting my problem solved that if I have another problem, that's who I wanna go through. Also, I was really pleased with their technician. He was very professional and he got the job done. I have recommended AHS to others.

There was water leaking under the shelf inside the refrigerator, so we thought that either the icemaker was leaking or there was some tube that came loose or got broken. It turned out that somebody had readjusted the temperature, so it was freezing up the lines and the lines would thaw on defrost and leak out. We decided to do submit the claim with American Home Shield online and it worked perfectly. It was a lot better than First American, with whom we have our warranty in another home that we have. The technician we get reaches out usually within 24 hours sometimes even within a couple of hours. Oftentimes, our calls happen on the weekend and, unless it's an emergency, I don't expect a callback from AHS until Monday. I usually get a call by 8 a.m. on the following business day and that has worked fine thus far.

The servicer AHS sent out was very responsive, and helpful. I was really happy with how quickly he was willing to come out and take a look at things. Even though it didn't seem like there was much to do, he checked everything out. Also, I noticed that AHS can collect the service call fee or copay in advance and the system doesn't allow you to delay that. It's either you're paying online in advance or you're paying the technician, or you're paying afterward. I'm very comfortable paying it online, but I prefer to pay it when the person shows up as opposed to paying it in advance. If people have to reschedule, it is irritating, so if there was a way to postpone the payment until the technician arrives and go on my phone and press the button and say, "Release the payment," that would make me a little happier.

It would also be a little better customer experience because it doesn't take complete control away. If somebody doesn't show up on time or shows up the wrong time, or shows up and says, "I made a mistake, I can't do this work," I'd rather not have to do the work to call AHS and say that they took the payment, yet the tech can't do the work. Still, AHS seems to be a better system compared to First American that takes longer in general.

We had problems with the dishwasher and we filed a claim with American Home Shield. Somebody called me from a company that had previously been out to look at my dishwasher. The guy who came out the first time was here for less than 10 minutes. He said that he can't do anything with the dishwasher and that I would have to call American Home Shield back. I told him that the last time they came out, it was the same problem and they ordered a new computer part and they got it working again. I assumed it was the same problem, but he said he couldn't deal with it and left. I was really annoyed about that because the previous time he had been out, I had waited for about a month for the part. The part came and he got the machine going again.

American Home Shield sent somebody else out this time. He was a very nice guy and he owns the company. In the meantime, I've been doing my homework and talking to my son. We had decided that there was either a problem with the computer or there was a blockage. It was obvious that it was going to be the blockage, which the first guy didn’t look for. The second guy came out and he found the blockage. He corrected it really quickly, so I was really pleased with his service and I would certainly want his service again.

I sent an email out to American Home Shield between the time that the first guy and the second guy came out to tell them that the service hasn’t been completed. But I got an email telling me that I was delinquent despite the fact that I told them I would not pay the bill until the service was completed. I phoned them back immediately to say that the service hasn’t been provided.

American Home Shield had asked me when we first set the account up if I wanted to pay in advance. I said no and I don’t see why AHS should get an interest on my money until they provided the service. They should not send out delinquency bills. By law, I have a month to pay and I was very annoyed because it can really throw my credit rating up if I went into the delinquency thing. We were seriously debating in not renewing our contract with American Home Shield. We decided to go ahead with them, but with mixed feelings about it.

He looked at it, identified a couple of things that he said he was going to replace and told me it had to be ordered. The contractor ordered the parts, came back and replaced them.

Unfortunately, the guy had to come back up a couple of times because the issue wasn't resolved when he was out. It was a little challenging for him figuring out what the issue was, but he got it. They left the hole open to see if it does it again. If not, in a week to 10 days, he said to call and have the hole repaired. We had a bad storm and we took a video of it just pouring in. We called AHS back and the lady told my daughter that she had to resubmit. My daughter did something and sent the guy out. He saw where it was coming down. The leak was on the first floor and running down the plumber’s pipe across the rafter and coming down in the living room. He said that wasn't them, and that was the roofer. There was nothing he could do.

We called the roofer, and they came out and said it was the plumbing stack. There was about a two-inch gap but our shingles were all cracked. They put these rubber grommets off of the pipe to go down and close around it until we could have the new roof put on. The contractor was very nice and polite. He explained everything and said if there was anything else, just go back through American Home Shield.

After hearing hold music for a few minutes, the line then went dead. I tried again...

After being on hold another 40 minutes, I reached Rep #3. I explained the situation, that my A/C was out, that the previous rep had disconnected, she assured me that she could help. Well, she placed me on hold and the line was disconnected again! I called again...holding 37 minutes to reach Rep #4. When she answered, I told her I was frustrated and told her she may want to just connect me to a supervisor. She said she would like to take 3-4 minutes to read the notes. I stated that was fine but please don't hang up on me. Well, she didn't...but she left me on hold. After being on hold for over 15 minutes, I had to disconnect. He said it always makes noises and nothing was wrong. He came out 3 more times as the problem became worse. He never took the cover off to assess the situation. Told me not to call again. After several calls and a minimum of hour wait time another repairman was ordered. I had to pay another service fee. The technician told me Circuit board and motor but we would try Circuit board first. Still not working. Have to call AHS 10 times with a minimum wait time of an hour.

Today I was on hold for 2 1/2 hours waiting to speak to a supervisor and ask for both service fees to be refunded...they disconnected the call. Still no idea when my A/C will be fixed. The parts are under warranty with my Lennox heating and A/C. I have lost income because I can't book my home for rentals for 2 1/2 months. Finally, today I get an agent that says they can only go back so far. Bull! I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. They owe me $187.96 and I want my money. Every social media site will know not to use this company.

In both cases they took the appliances from our house, said they couldn't fix them, and said they couldn't get ahold of American Home Shield to find a resolution. My wife and I have waited on hold over 5 times for 45 minutes, just have the system hang up on us. We waited today for 41 minutes before it was hung up on us. The company has over $4,000 worth of appliances and we feel compelled to call the attorney general here in Kansas. Please contact us as soon as possible.

We purchased a home with a AHS Warranty included. Our water heater busted all over our basement on 10/1/18. We submitted a request at 5:45 am that morning and waited to hear something back. They claim they attempted to call and called the incorrect number, despite me giving them the number when I submitted the claim. They even texted my husband about our claim (this was on Monday). We did not have any correspondence with a repair man until Tuesday, 10/2/18 and he said he would get it ordered and have it repaired on Wednesday 10/3/18 and he said he'd call on his way.

We heard nothing from AHS or the repair man on that Wednesday until my husband called to see where he was. He told us that they were waiting on Home Depot. It is now 10/4/18 and we are going into the fourth evening of not having hot water and we still do not have an estimated time that our water heater will be replaced. This kind of service is completely unacceptable and I will not recommend AHS.

We contracted for our home and a rental we own. Our rental had air conditioning issues in the middle of summer. The company they sent out were horrible and unprofessional. They supposedly ordered a part, other air conditioning companies I hired said were unavailable because the air conditioning company was out of business. AHS refused to listen and would only pay for this $1116.00 part cost. Even though the company they sent never contacted us, after repeated attempts from us. In the end we paid $11,000.00 for a new AC heating unit. Our tenants were without or limited AC for weeks, while AHS did nothing.

Then when a new tenant moved in on September 1, 2018, she had no hot water. We were on a three-week cruise, so AHS sent out a plumbing company. The tech sent me a text we needed a new hot water heater, ours not worth fixing. A week goes by and AHS says they’re sending another plumbing company out, who never did contact our tenant even after I provided information.

Two weeks go by now, our tenant has no hot water in the entire townhouse, she’s going to the gym to shower. I tell her to hire a plumber, who replaced the hot water heater at thousands expense to us. AHS has refused to reimburse anything saying I didn’t follow their policies. They also continued our contract without my authorization. I’m dealing with them still, today October 4th, on a recall for a faucet repaired in August. Long half holds on the phone, mostly rude employees etc. Believe me they keep notes on their customers. Our next payment is due October 18th, pretty sure I’m canceling them, which might be part of their business plan. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT CONTRACT WITH AMERICAN HOME SHIELD.

FACT: If you like being ripped off... hassled... waiting on hold endlessly... and driven absolutely nuts by a customer service and authorization department that couldn't give a rat's ** about your satisfaction, you should sign up for AHS without delay. I've had home warranties for over 30 years and this was my first experience with American Home Shield after our last warranty (which came with our home) expired. Instead of being smart and going with First American (which we had for decades), I thought I'd try AHS. They have so many clearly FAKE "consumer review" sites that it seemed like a good choice. Wow, was I taken for a fool.

After a year of paying the monthly fee... and then renewing (automatically) without even a SINGLE claim, I then had problems with our dryer. The contractor they assigned us (who didn't contact us for days) scheduled us for 5 days out. I requested another vendor who would do it sooner. After holding on the phone endlessly (!!!), they said they'll try to find someone and would call me back that day.

Needless to say, I had to call them. They said the couldn't find anyone, but they need 24 hours and I should call back. I did. And they STILL didn't find anyone. So instead of authorizing me to use my own contractor (as they promised), I was told that they need to send my request to another department for review and that I would be called by 5 that day.

Again, no call. Then I get an email saying, "Great News! We found a contractor!" Only problem. The idiots assigned the SAME guy on the SAME day at the SAME time. Fools. I called them back and was told, "Uh... that's weird... it says here that the company we assigned doesn't even do dryers or ANY appliances. We will have to check into it before authorizing your own repair guy." More delays. Next day, nobody calls. I have to call yet again. And wait endlessly on hold yet again. This place truly sucks. Finally, I get an email saying, "You are approved to find your own vendor. Here is the auth #... and here's what to do." And I also called to confirm that email. Everything checked out.

So I call my own guy. He comes and diagnoses the problem. Then, as instructed by the rep AND their email, my guy calls American HASSLE, er, HOME Shield for an authorization # to repair. A miserable arrogant robot says, "Uh, sorry... we assigned someone to you." I say, "No. I have an authorization # and an email that I'm looking at RIGHT NOW. It tells me I am authorized and tells me to call my own guy and have him call you (fools)." She says in a truly "I don't give 2 craps about you manner"... "No... my records say we assigned someone and management says you are NOT authorized to call your own guy." I say, "Let me give you the auth number so you can look it up."

She says in Queen ** manner, "Sir, I have all the information I need. You are not authorized. I don't know why you got that email." I say, "Well, maybe there's something you weren't informed of (trying my best to keep my cool dealing with this truly miserable company)... May I speak to a supervisor, please?" She puts me on hold... comes back and asks to speak to my repair guy... and FINALLY gives us an auth #. (Whether they ultimately pay or not remains to be seen.

Did she apologize to me, the customer? NO. Did she apologize to my repair guy for putting him through hell and arguing with him too? NO. Did Mrs. Don't Give a Crap even EXPLAIN what happened? NO. Nothing. Just, "here's your #." I am appalled. Yes, I know this idiot is a cog in the wheel, but if a customer tells you that he received an email saying, YOU ARE AUTHORIZED TO USE YOUR OWN REPAIR CONTRACTOR, then even as a peon in the company I would go to my manager and say, "Hey... something is wrong here. This guy was TOLD by US to use his own person. We can't now say he CAN'T after we told him to... and he called a vendor who did the onsite diagnosis!" Nothing. She just was more interested in being "right"... as wrong as she was.

If you are considering American Home Shield, you are being DECEIVED by obviously FAKE reviews that are spread out all over the web. Don't think for a minute of using this horrid company. They will do nothing but hassle the hell out of you and make you wish you learned from my MISERABLE experience. And who knows if they'll even pay.

I will tell you this... when this repair is done, I'm cancelling and going back to First American. I had only 1 issue with them in over 20 years and it was resolved, but 99% of the time everything was great. Global was also incredible, but they only sell through real estate agents and once the coverage lapses, you can't, as the homeowner, renew. I used outside repair guys in EVERY case with Global and the process was amazing every time.

American Home Shield is ABSOLUTE CRAP. If you don't believe me... go ahead and sign up. I promise you'll kick yourself for making one of the stupidest decisions of your life. (Like what I'm doing right now.) Spread the word. American Home Shield sucks. American Home Shield couldn't care less about you. American Home Shield will take your money and screw you over... or simply put you through the wringer. American Home Shield is an example of a company run by morons. American Home Shield hopes they trick you into believing their false advertising about "easy claims". American Home Shield is ready to RIP YOU OFF. BEWARE!

After 3 different representatives, 56 minutes on the phone, including one that was a supervisor, no one was able to actually understand my question. In fact the supervisor suggested she set up a service ticket on my hot water heater! All of them used prompts that were obviously for suggested responses to my questions generated by a computer. It seems to be a misnomer to call a company "American Home Shield" and you can't speak to anyone in America. It's been over a month and my dryer still hasn't been fixed. AHS is still drafting their monthly fees and have been paid the service fee for my repair, without an actual repair. This company has online chat and all type ways to contact them to enroll and report a repair. HOWEVER, when it's time to follow up on a repair, prepare to spend all day on hold and often get hung up on. I have been trying for weeks to speak to a live person about my repair. I am getting rid of AHS as soon as I can reach someone and I plan to just purchase a new dryer. Stay away from AHS, because it's not worth it. Start you a savings account just for repairs. This company is horrible. As a realtor, I have dealt many home warranty companies and AHS is by the worst. My air conditioner stopped working in May. I called and made a claim, and within a few hours AHS issued a provider to do the work. The company issued called and made an appointment for a week later. Not ideal, but okay. When they came out, the contractor was rude. He didn't explain what was wrong with the unit and he made a "repair" and charged us for 2 lbs of plan uncovered freon ($210). The AC started working and 2 hours after he left, the AC stopped working again. I called AHS and resubmitted the claim. The contractor (same rep) called me back and stated they couldn't get out to my home for another week. This is now frustrating.

They come out (same rep) the following week and now claim it needs a new part and it will take another 7-10 days to come in. The part comes in and they (same rep) install it. The AC begins to work. Less than 15 days goes by and the AC stops working again. I called AHS and now I'm pissed-I demand a new contractor. AHS REFUSES to send out a new contractor, but states they will make sure a new representative is sent out. The new rep from the same company comes out and shakes his head... Freon shouldn't have been filled because there was an obvious leak, filling it is illegal. He tells us the last rep didn't reinstall the filter they removed, and that the condenser needs to be replaced.

I contact AHS and again demand a new contractor and relay all the information from their own hired contractor. They refuse to send out a new company and say that the only thing I can do is place a formal complaint with their vendor department. This department never called as promised and I call 7 times and I'm placed on hold for a rep that answers. He contacts AHS and AHS puts me on the phone for 40 minutes waiting for the rundown of the work. It only gets worse from here. I tell them this company shouldn't be performing this extensive work on my home after 8 weeks of piss poor performance. They refuse and offer to "cash me out" for $1700 (mind you it is a 8000 replacement). They refuse a new contractor and valuing my property I take the cash out.

I hire my own contractor, who says the work required is 5x worse than what they diagnosed, and that we should be demanding AHS issue us more money based on their estimate. Mind you, I'm paying my contractor out of my pocket-he could care less where the money is coming from. He was disgusted at the home warranty company and the previous contractors "work". I call to cancel my AHS contract and they refuse to cancel the contract, stating their cancellation department handles this and they will call me back after receiving the request from customer service. They are also going to charge me a administrative cancellation fee.

While I'm waiting for the cancellation department to call, 2 weeks passes and they deduct my monthly fee again out of my account. I contacted my bank and reported the deduction as fraud and had them blacklisted from taking ACH payments from my account. My bank investigated and refunded my money. I contacted the BBB and they lied to the BBB about the specifics of my account. Horrible company. Stay away.

I contacted AHS in July 2018 to have someone check my outdoor sump pump. I was told by the plumber and the AHS rep that the claim would be covered and all I was required to pay was my service charge. The plumbing company later contacted me stating that AHS would no longer cover the pump. After many calls, I decided to contact AHS corporate office. I received a call from one of the higher ups who stated that the pump would be covered as a courtesy to me. So Mister Plumber (also horrible) came out to install the pump. I did not have any problems with water getting into my home for a while because we didn't have much heavy rain. Towards the end of August, I began coming home from work at times, finding water in my house. I thought the rain had just been so heavy that the pump could not handle it. Well the other day, I was home when it poured. From the time the rain started to build in my backyard, the pump did absolutely nothing.

I contacted Mister Plumber and AHS. Both companies wanted to charge me to come out and look at the "brand new pump" to determine what the problem was. I was told by the plumbing company that they only cover the pump for 30 days and AHS said they only covered it for 60 days. It is extremely unfair to customers when information is miscommunicated and we are held at fault. As a result, I plan to cancel my contract. I can use the money I pay monthly to pay a reliable plumber to come out and service or replace the piece of junk AHS paid Mister Plumber to install! Signed, A Very Unhappy Ex-Customer.

On Sept 19 a technician came and said it needed a control board but that was not that only thing wrong with it but he had to replace that in order to diagnose the rest of the problem. The part was ordered. When I hadn’t heard anything by Sept 28 I called AHS and found out no one had ordered the part! I was promised a refund of my service fee which still hasn’t appeared in my back account as of Oct 3. On Oct 3 I called again and was told the part arrived broken (which happens a lot). After being on hold over an hour I was told they’d investigate and call me back with options (replacement). No one called.

So I called again about 12 hours later. This time I was on hold over 2 hours and told the part would arrive on October 11! I have a family and I’ve already spent a fortune at the laundromat not to mention the time. Someone is supposed to call me tomorrow but I think he just wanted to end the call with me this evening. You can go either online or on the phone when you submit claims to American Home Shield and for the light switch in the upstairs bathroom, I needed an electrician to check on its functionality. They would usually send an email or text message confirming that they got the request. The electrician from the company that AHS use called to set up the appointment. Once it was set, they should show up and you would tell them what was going on. When you turn on the light switch, sometimes, you have to jiggle it. The gentleman replaced it and he said that it was a bad switch and that it wasn’t just loose so, I couldn’t have gone in there and just tighten something up. Now, the light switch works when you flip it up.

In the one year timeframe that we had them, we filed a dozen claims and it has been the process for just about everything that we’ve had a claim for. There was only one time that there was an issue with communication as far as quick to respond, to get someone out here and to take care of it. M & M Control came out and they cleaned the outside unit, and also checked the other ones that were out there. If I can’t get a hold of someone at AHS, I use the live chat. Then I’ll get a notification saying who they picked. And then, the company will call me, and they usually come out within a week depending on how busy they are. The last people I used was Thomas Heating and Air because they switched companies. The only thing is, I don’t usually get the same vendors. We live in a small town so there’s nobody that does the work. So they’ll find someone that’s better, depending on the time situation ‘cause most of them come from San Antonio.

When the contractors come out, they introduce themselves, explain how to prevent the problems, maintain stuff, anything that might need to be replaced in the future depending on the situation. Most of the times, they’ve already worked with American Home Shield more than once so they tell us what’s gonna be covered if something else has to be replaced later on down the road and give us a price range. I’ve already recommended a couple people to AHS.

Our AC stopped working and we called American Home Shield. We set up a service appointment, paid for that, and a technician came out at my request on that same day because, at that time, the temperature was 95 degrees here where we live. In the first appointment, the technician wasn’t gonna be able to come out until two days later and I told them that it wasn’t gonna work for me. So, I called American Home Shield and I asked them if they could send somebody out sooner than that if they had another company that they could use, and they did. The other company came out and technician fixed it within one hour, and it has worked good ever since. We also submitted a claim for our refrigerator that broke twice and we had an issue with our hood range that we are still waiting on to get replaced.

We've had American Home Shield for almost a year and when submitting claims, we just go online. The website is user-friendly and somebody usually contacts us within 24 hours. The contractors that they’ve sent out have been very nice and very professional. AHS usually sends out Cal Valley Appliance, except for the AC unit, when they sent somebody else. The technicians give us a four-hour window and they are usually punctual.

The quality of the repairs has been good and the appliances haven't failed again. Plus, you also have to consider that most of these appliances are the originals that came with the house when we bought it. So, they’re pretty old already. American Home Shield is a good company, but their 24-hour window seems a little far out. For example, when our refrigerator went bad, a lot of our food could get spoiled in 24 hours. I wish AHS could improve and fast-track a request depending on the appliance that gets messed up. They could decrease the time if it has to be with a refrigerator or an AC unit.

My shower was clogged and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. My experience submitting the claim to them was great and they got the contractor, Neighborhood Plumber, out here the next day. The guy has been out here before and he's commendable. In the past, I have had trouble where it was hard to reach AHS. Sometimes I would be on hold for an hour and a half and sometimes they would send out somebody bad. Last year, I had a flood in my laundry room and AHS had to send out three people which I wasn’t happy about. I was paying $75 each pop and they weren't fixing it so I had to escalate it. Finally, I got this Neighborhood Plumber guy and he figured it out in two seconds. It turned out to be related to my air conditioner so I had to call the air conditioner guy out.

Also, sometimes, AHS would screw up on billing and it would take them a while to fix. Their reps kept saying that they would take care of it and they never did. I would call to follow up and they would say that they could see that someone took care of it, but they didn’t. But it was resolved five months later. And other than that, their reps are great as far as calling and making appointments.

I had a good experience with AHS two years ago when my stove broke and their contractor came out and fixed it. There was a 30-day warranty. But it was in the middle of summer, so I didn’t use my stove much. 60 days after and the same part broke again. It was obvious I wasn’t using my stove. That part was supposed to work for five years, but it worked 60 days and they took care of that. The contractor came out and replaced it, but I did not get charged for it and that was good about them.

I had a stocked-up drain then I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and the site was easy and user-friendly. The contractor who came out was pleasant, polite, understood, and did a good job. They un-stocked the tub drain and was not affected. I made a phone call when I needed the contractor back and the person I talked with was quick to respond and understood the issue. He had an appointment set up for me the following Monday. Everything was efficient. American Home Shield is a good product and one could expect a really good service.

I'm a Realtor and I sell American Home Shield's warranty to clients. They are a little higher than a couple of others, so I always feel like I have to let people know, and give them brochures of the different ones, but I think American Home Shield does a good job. When our dryer was not heating, I called them and it was easy to file the claim. I got the message, but I didn't see it right away. I had to wait 'till the next day, which was prompt. The contractor ordered a part that they thought might be the problem and they came out with it. They come from Colombia, which is an hour and a half away, so they try to come prepared which made a lot of sense. The contractor replaced this one part and the dryer worked once, then it wasn't working again, so they came out a second time, repaired it and it was fine.

I’m more comfortable with submitting my claims over the phone to American Home Shield. I’ve tried it online and they didn’t seem to respond as fast. I have multiple numbers for them and sometimes you have to wait on the line for half an hour to get them. I usually hang up and call another number and the person answers right away. So, they need to change their phones. Nevertheless, every single person that they have sent over has been fantastic and the interactions were great. They were efficient and diagnosed the problem in 10 minutes. They were very honest, showed up when they were supposed to and returned my calls. I’ve never had a problem and they always kept me in the loop.

The way AHS is advertising is that they cover almost everything within exceptions until you have a problem with your water heater. They should have told me ahead of time that they don’t cover water heaters with certain issues. Still, they replaced a microwave that was attached to an oven for me, the thermostat for the air conditioner and heater, the computer on my heating system, the ice maker in my refrigerator, and most recently, the motor on the dryer. These things are not that old but they failed and so they replaced them.

In the area where I live, there are a lot of high-quality people but I have friends that live 50 miles from here and they said that they didn’t feel comfortable with the contractors that AHS sent out to their house. So, then they canceled the service. However, I’m so glad that we have it and I have recommended it to my neighbors and all my friends. I’m a big proponent of it. I don’t understand why everybody doesn’t have this service. Unless every one of your appliances is brand-new. Our appliances are within six to nine years old and it’s a fabulous service because you never know who to call. If you call them, they would send out a reputable person.

Their contractors normally call within a day or the same day so I called the contractor. They said they had called, but they called my husband’s old cell phone number. Justin came out that next day and had gotten the refrigerator all fixed in one day. He was professional and courteous. I had called AHS customer service and provided them with the updated phone numbers. I’m satisfied with American Home Shield and have referred them to numerous people.

We had a Whirlpool refrigerator. The freezer kept freezing up solid. We had another company come out and they said it needed a freezer plug replaced but Whirlpool didn’t make it anymore. For over a year we didn’t have a freezer that we could use so that was very frustrating. When we got AHS to have it serviced, we noticed there was some other problems with the refrigerator. Their contractor was able to diagnose everything and initially fix it. They’ve been very professional and I was surprised at how fast they have gotten things diagnosed. They told us what they thought was happening and how they had fix it.

The contractors were also really helpful as far as telling us to call if we had any other problems. They do a very good job and they do it in a real timely manner. The warranty have been well worth the amount of money. The freezer was fine for a while and then it was defrosting and we couldn’t keep things cold. We called them back and they said there was a computerized component that it needed. They ordered it and they came out and fixed it. It’s been fine ever since. It took two tries, but we appreciated that they at least were able to troubleshoot it and not just say that they didn't know how to get it fixed. They saved us having to buy a new refrigerator.

The only thing is nobody's there to take your call. You have to leave a message and then they would get back to you as far as when somebody could come out and they schedule it. But it’s not really a big deal. Their reps have been very helpful and they get the information pretty concisely and then are able to tell us who they could send and what the timeline was. It’s usually pretty fast. Also the one problem I had was that it took two weeks to order the computerized piece but we knew it was happening. But on the whole, we were very happy they were able to repair it. AHS has been excellent.

He explained about the system and what it takes for it to run properly, a heat pump in this case, and how it integrated into our house. Though he wasn't able to resolve the issue, he was very nice and upfront. Using American Home Shield was very convenient. When I moved into my house in 2006, I've had American Home Shield. And then I renewed a couple of years. My air conditioning unit then was old. My description of American Home Shield is that they want to rubber band, duct tape, super glue and staple things together. So, what happened was, my air conditioning unit that was old which was pulling a lot of electricity just to work and my electric bill was consistently $354 a month in the summer. I ended up just cancelling and just paid the three grand out of pocket to get my air conditioning unit replaced. And then, my electric bill in the summer was $120, $140. And before that, when I turned on the faucet in the basement, it leaked, and water went everywhere. It was the second day that I moved in. According to American Home Shield, that wasn't covered. They said it had to be behind the wall.

If there's an advertisement saying that they provide repair or replacement, and something is too expensive for you, then you need to come out and do an assessment before you take on that liability. When I sold my house, my faucet needed to be changed. How was I to know that the policy didn't cover changing out a faucet. If you get the contract, yes, but there are some patently obvious things that consumers need and you wouldn't know that the home warranty company doesn't cover it until you need it covered. I just bought a new house. If I had a say with what the seller was offering, I would not have selected American Home Shield.

We had a claim for a plumbing problem with American Home Shield recently. We submitted the claim online and navigating through their website was fine and easy. The service and the interaction we had with the contractor that they sent out were good and everything has been working fine since the repair. But we had a horrible experience with the claim that we filed for the furnace last year. Apparently, our furnace was put in incorrectly. The contractor, Superman Heating & Cooling, scheduled several times to come out, but they cancelled the appointment several times. Then, when they finally came out, they sent out their newest guy that never even knew what was going on with the project. Now, they eventually fixed it because they had to put in some sort of condensation pump in it. But we will see if that works because I’ve only used the heat in the last month or so.

American Home Shield was good though. When the air conditioner was first put in a long time ago, the contractor was good, and then they were flaking out big time. The ball was dropped on the contractor's side, not with AHS. The contractor was overwhelmed because of the summer, but the biggest thing was the communication. They could never give me their word and communicate if they were gonna come. There were days when I would get off work and sit around because they were gonna come, but they never showed up. Or they would show up really late and come out, but they wouldn't have the part that was needed as it hadn't come to the warehouse, so they couldn’t do anything and we needed to reschedule the repair.

I was so angry because there were times when my wife would stay home and make sure that someone was here on the days that I had to work, so it was a mess. Then I called and told them that I was gonna have to take legal action because they needed to come and I didn’t feel comfortable having my family in here with a furnace that was not working perfectly. It got to the point where I was about to hire an attorney. Despite all that, I was really happy with AHS. They helped us out a lot. I pay $100 a month because we’ve had some problems, but they’ve kept their word every single time.

The air conditioner guy came out a couple of times for different units and said we needed an electrician for our fan in the attic, so somebody else came. All the people they have directed us to have been great, nice, helpful and polite. They solved the problems and came when they were supposed to. My only issue with AHS was trying to phone in a claim. Called American Home Shield (Again for another property) about a main drain issue with my house. They sent out a Harvey Contractors for the plumbing issues. Plumber pulls out small snake and starts snaking the main drain line from inside the house. He pulls out some stuff (places it on the floor) and says he can't snake any further because this part of the plumbing extends outside the house... even though it's inside the house where it starts and there is no outside clearout.

So I called my other insurance for plumbing (Covered by my water company.) The deductible for them is $50.00 and their plumber brought an industrial snake. He cleared the main drain in 15 minutes and proceeded to ensure the drain line was completely clear... Now my drain line is working fine and there wasn't any grass or roots like the AHS plumber suggested. Not sure who AHS has been using as their professional but they obviously do not know what they are doing. Next time I will call my Water Company's contractor first... Cheaper and more efficient.

I have been a customer for over 8 years. I have had no big repairs till now. Both my ovens stopped working and American Home Shield offered me $320 for replacement! Not sure where they are buying ovens from but that wouldn’t even cover 1 oven. I had no choice to go with the second option to repair the faulty part- 3-5 weeks to get my ovens functional!! How do they expect families to function without an oven for over a month. I decided to part ways with them and cancelled my contract - making sure that the open service requests would be finished out- I was already charged for the service call!! The icing on the cake came when American Home Shield didn’t cancel my account in time (because their retention department is flooded with cancellation calls - the rep I spoke to told me this) and then proceeded to charge me for another month!

When I finally got a hold of a rep in retention - 1 hour and 47 min later - she told me that they would cancel but keep the funds they had deducted for early cancellation. I am on a month to month draw after this many years but she refused to believe me or give her full name. She was rude and refused to pass me onto a supervisor. Her first name is SAMANTHA. So at this point I’m without ovens and been charged for an extra month!!

This is the WORST COMPANY EVER! They are fine as long as you don’t actually have major appliances that need to be replaced. They are cheap and want to fix things for nothing with total disregard to what they are putting customers through. I have NEVER posted a review before but I feel I need to warn future customers. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. Drawing out funds after I had cancelled was fraudulent on their part. At this point I will have to change bank accounts to ensure they can’t deduct any more funds!!!

I had a service call a few weeks ago because our upstairs AC kept kicking off and I had to reset the circuit breaker in the panel. I called in and paid the $70 service call fee and they dispatched a local AC company to check it out. The technician checked it and said the suspected the circuit breaker was bad and "turned it over to electrical". Quickly an electrician showed up and replaced the circuit breaker and that fixed the problem. A few days ago I got an email from AHS saying I owed them another $70 for the call, a "second service" was required to fix the AC problem. I pay $900 per year for this service and now I'm being double charged to fix a minor AC issue. Don't think for one second if you pay for the service call that your cost is taken care of, they can apparently keep tapping you for more $70 hits if your job requires any other "services". I've used AHS for 30 years and I'm currently looking for other options.

I reported again and service technician came but could not even look at it as the sticker with model number was missing. Was there previously in March when parts were order but must have been removed by technician. Second company came out and reported same issue. 3rd and original service company was called out but told me one thing and then reported no malfunction found on washer - total lie. 4th company came out and was the only one to take apart and find issue. Cracked tub liner.

When I called to find out status as after a week no one had reached out to me, I was told parts would take 3-5 weeks to come in and then time to schedule installation - another 1.5 - 2 months without. I was told they would reimbursement the cost of less than $300 if I wanted to purchase one but even though the washer was 20 years old they would not issue a reimbursement cost to replace. So the fact that I will now be without appliance for 5-6 months, damage to new baseboards, and new tile due to leaking and rust under washer, being a customer for 20 years, did not count for any additional consideration. This is not a company you want to deal with and I will be seeking another company to do my business with. I am a very patient person but 6 months without and no considerations for age or lack of use or their service companies removing or reporting falsely counted for anything. Our water heater stopped working due to it tripping our circuit breaker. We requested service with AHS and they had a plumber come out to our house this morning. When the plumber called to verify our warranty, AHS said they would not pay for the claim. They stated this was due to secondary damage resulting from a pipe leaking above the water heater. The pipe that was leaking was the pipe supplying water to the water heater.

After waiting over an hour to speak to a representative from their authorization department, the female that I spoke to gave me attitude and stated they wouldn’t pay the claim because there shouldn’t be any pipes above the water heater. I tried to explain to her that’s where the fittings and connections are for the water supply but she wouldn’t hear it. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she told me there wasn’t one. I also then asked if there was just a general manager over her that I could speak to. She said there was a manager over her but I couldn’t speak to them. I then had her transfer me to someone else.

After waiting another 30 minutes I got a basic customer service rep who told me she couldn’t tell me who I spoke to, couldn’t speak to a supervisor (because they would only contact me through email) and she couldn’t connect me with the authorization department again. In general it was an awful experience with an awful company that we plan on calling to cancel our service with.

(initially denied a new compressor) Only after I read my contract that says South Carolina residents may file a complaint with the South Carolina Board of Insurance did they issue a 2nd contractor (my original choice but I didn't want to wait on hold for over an hour - the usual wait time to request a specific contractor - my mistake) who said I needed a new compressor (duh!) which was diagnosed by my electrician and an independent contractor before the incompetent subcontractor said it was due to leaves in my unit.

Then, it took 6 day for AHS purchasing to send the compressor - to the WRONG Carrier facility (180 miles away in Charleston). I have had AHS out 7 times in the past year for my HVAC system yet they refuse to do anything but put a "band-aid" on my equipment. Need I say more? I will be checking to see how many days it takes AHS to take this review off this site. Any bets?

    Original Review: Oct. 3, 2018

We signed up for AHS home warranty and decided to use it once we saw there were a few electrical issues and a shower leak that was rotting our baseboards and drywall. As for the electrician, the company they chose for the original request never contacted us. We even called and he never called back nor came to fix our problem, this was in March of 2018. We called to pursue it but being on hold for an hour multiple times just to get zero results became tiresome so we eventually forgot about it until the plumbing issue arises in June.

We live in Guntown, MS, they send a plumber from Memphis, TN which is almost 2 hours from where we live, and when the plumber gets there, he doesn't fix the problem because he claims he didn't have the tools and when he left, we examined it ourselves and noticed he misdiagnosed the problem when we, not the plumber, actually turned on the shower to see where the source of the leak was and it did not add up with his diagnosis. However, since the plumber never came back and started to give us the runaround by planning to come out on specific days and never show up, we were never able to address the actual problem which was an obvious connector leak.

That was in June or July, it is now October and after hounding them, we finally talked to someone who was able to understand our frustration and issues. She assigned us a new electrician who came out and fixed our problems quickly. She also put in a request for a new plumber with a note not to choose the one we had before, however I assume the note did not reach others in the company because we were assigned to the same plumber and he did not come and fix our problem... again. So we just decided to call a repair company ourselves who was local. He came out the next day and fixed our issue. we called to cancel our entire AHS service because obviously, AHS is not worth the headache based on the amount of money we've paid throughout the year.

Even that was a problem. No one answered in the department we were told to contact so a cancelation inquiry was put in and we were suppose to get a call back in 24 hours. That did not happen so we tried again after 48 hours and was given the same information. Still, nothing happened. At this point we are so frustrated and tired of paying for nothing that we decided we are just going to contact Better Business Bureau because that's pretty much all we can do. I advise others to just avoid this company.

In the end, base on the overall customer service, their choice of technicians and the amount of money you pay each month, they are not worth it. You may come out better handling everything yourself, because even if you let AHS know your issues, they will not return any fees associated with unfixed requests and apparently they will not work with you if you would like to pick a repair company on your own that you know will do a good job, or at least be more responsive, local and convenient.

I've had AHS for over a year. They are fine for small repairs. If your a/c breaks then you are better off hiring someone yourself. My a/c broke and it took several days to get someone out to evaluate the problem, and another week and a half to get the new part. The new part was rebuilt and lasted only a few hours. After calling the a/c company (Airtronics) to inquire when the new part was coming in they repeatedly told me that it had been ordered. It has been a few weeks and still no part. I live in Texas and it's very hot. Can you imagine going without a/c for 3 to 4 weeks? I finally hired my own contractor and paid to have it fixed.

AHS doesn't hire quality vendors, they make you wait on hold for at least 20 minutes and they don't offer good problem resolution. I lost my tenant over this repair and have incurred damages. Most of the vendors that AHS uses always try to get more money by telling you that you need more work that isn't covered by AHS. I've had a couple of good vendors come to make repairs but the majority are crooks.

I have had American Home Shield for several years, and until recently I have not called on them much. But, almost two years ago, we put in a service request for our ice maker, and they sent a company out to fix it, but they were not able to. We had to make multiple requests to get it fixed, but they keep sending the same company who cannot fix it. We have been doing this for almost two years now, and we still do not have a working ice maker. It has been incredibly frustrating, to not only be paying the service fees, taking time away from work to meet the technicians, and still have no working ice maker.

This past year we had another horrible experience with our a/c. In 103 degree heat, it broke, we called AHS and they were not going to send anyone for several days. We emphasized the seriousness of the situation, but again, they were no help. We ended up having to pay a company not in their “network” to fix it, which was extremely maddening given we have been paying for a home warranty too. This company is terrible, and I will never use them again. I am stuck until next April with them, and they refuse to refund me, or make any of these issues right for me. I feel like I have wasted so much money!

Now I'm presently on the phone finally after another 40 min wait. I ask the associate for a phone number of where I can make a complaint and he puts me on hold. At this time now the timing has gone further!!! I was offered two choices of companies which one of them was 300 some miles away would be here 4 days later to service my AC. The other who I picked had answering service that says will not get back to me until after 2 pm so I called AMS and the rep emails AC co. which call me back at 2 just to say he would be arriving 4pm but at 5pm he is no show.

I called him and no answer. Then he called at 5:30 pm sounding drunk slurring his words and says he can't come but that he will be here at 12 noon so I asked, "Ok 12noon right?" Then he changes time to 12-3 somewhere in there. I just said, "No. Thank you" and I'll call the AHS AGAIN, which I did and again waited Again to get answer. Requested to speak to supervisor which never received but put me on hold and never came back to phone!!! This is by far the worse company I have ever had to deal with!!! I had to hire a company on my own to come service my A/C. Paid night call but now in working order! If someone has the contact number to upper management pls post it! Unsatisfied Family.

The AHS reps help us out when we call in for our claims and their contractors represent themselves well when they come out and do the job. We had a clogged toilet and when the tech first came, he put a new floater on the toilet downstairs but it didn’t work. And then he came out again, and put something down in there and made it start flushing. Then on our shower, we were trying to figure out why it was leaking. We saw the water dripping from the shower head, and the technician replaced that and stopped the leaking. Overall, we've had a great experience with American Home Shield.

I made a claim over the phone for an electric stove repair and the AHS agent was fine. The customer service for the contractor company, on the other hand, was horrible. I had an appointment and the tech did not show up. I had called about an hour before the appointment was scheduled just to see if I was still on the schedule ‘cause it was getting pretty late in the day, and there was no answer. I left a message, and I didn’t get a response. I called the next morning and no one answered, and I left another message to contact me.

After not getting a message, I called American Home Shield and told them about it, and they said they would try and do something about it. Eventually, a person showed up and he was professional. He had to order a part, so we had to wait another 48 hours. He got the part in, came out, did his work and was gone. However, there was a mix-up on the first service. An address was not put on the trip sheet, so the guy didn’t know to even come to my house. Still, now the stove is working fine and that was all I needed.

They even had to come back the next day because another part the AC was connected to whatever the original part was. They said because they had been going on for so long, and that piece broke, the other part may go out and it did. So they fixed that as well. They were really spot on. Our AC stopped running. The fan unit on the inside furnace would blow. But the unit outside wasn't kicking on, and so I had to report that to American Home Shield. The first time I reported it, a repairman came out and he said there was something that had tripped, so he replaced that part. About 10 days later, it happened again. The second repairman came out, and he said that the fan for the unit outside wasn't replaced quickly the first time, and it would overheat. He showed me where the fan bearings had worn out, so the fan wasn't spinning at full capacity. He also noticed some residue on it, so he said he thought my coils were leaking on the outside unit. So, he turned it in, and it took a long time to get a new unit. They had to figure out how to replace the outside unit.

The contractor was awesome because they showed me stuff that I could probably do on my own if I ran into issues. They explained everything they were doing and showed me all the stuff that had gone wrong, so I knew they weren't trying to pull the wool over my eyes. When we first bought the house and we signed for it, I had to submit a request because the air conditioner went out. We had somebody that American Home Shield had sent out come out and replace the fan on the external unit, and the serviceman I had come out this last time told me that the motor they put it there was a four-in-one motor. It wasn't meant to last over a year and I made it for about five years with it. But I didn't know that, and so they educated me on that, and I know what to look for now.

The claims process seemed fairly easy. The only thing I didn't really like was I had to call and schedule the appointment for somebody to come out. I thought that once I had made the request, they would tell me when somebody was gonna come out and be available. But I had to do that on my own. I also had to call American Home Shield to follow up because I kept tracking the status of my request online and I didn't see an update. The repair service didn't submit the information to initiate the approval, so there were some communication problems between the repair service and American Home Shield. But overall, American Home Shield did a great job. Once I called, they were able to help me. But I didn't like having to wait for someone. I’d been on hold forever if I had to get through to somebody. But the only way really to get through American Home Shield is to call. There's no online chat, so that kinda stung, but I know they’re very busy.

My condenser unit in my AC wasn’t functioning and AHS sent out a contractor. At first, they said the whole unit need to be replaced. When I got the estimate back from American Home Shield, they said it was gonna be umpteenth thousand some odd dollars for it and asked for a second opinion from another contractor. They came out and said we just need to replace a small capacitor and add a little bit of Freon, and then it worked fine ever since. The first contractors were completely incompetent. I had gone back and looked at their reviews and unfortunately they were terrible. It was about 24 hours later when the second one came out. They were professional and wasn’t trying to do any more than what he needed to do.

When I initially thought that I was gonna have to have the condenser replaced, they had a lot of hidden charges. You have to look deep into the contract to see all the little things that they don’t cover and it’s not really disclosed when I first got the policy. But I wish there’s better coverage. It’s a 30-year old unit. If they did have to replace it, they’re gonna have to bring it up to the current code. But it just seems like they’re just nickel and diming you on little things here and there. It just added up to just thousands some odd dollars.

I’ve had this policy from AHS for a long time. We’ve had it over 20 years and the coverage is very good when it comes to ACs. I’ve used them for other things around the house and it was just fine. In California, they’re phasing out the coolant they’re using in this particular unit. They said they only cover the first $10 per pound when per power right now, it’s over $100. For what I’ve been paying into this policy for the last 20 years, they should have a little better coverage when it comes to AC repair.

I called in my claim because the selection they have online is kind of vague. For example, if I say it's a certain item and that’s what’s wrong because that’s the only given, then they’ll say I didn’t say that. I learned the hard way that I have to go to a person because then they tell me that because I did not tell them that these things were wrong with it, I gotta make a new order, and the person couldn't fix it.

The first electrician AHS sent out was a problem. He was just saying that we were gonna have to pay everything out of pocket. That was even before he even came out. I told them that they haven’t even looked at what was going on and they were already saying that everything would have to be paid out of pocket. AHS sent someone else and he was okay and did what he was supposed to do.

I also have had difficulties with my property in Georgia. When it comes to things like my furnace, they always want to convert. If the part is no longer available for my furnace or things like that, then they want me to have the people do some type of converting thing. They just put in a water heater at my house and they said they don’t pay for alterations and all alteration seem to cost $1,000. So it doesn’t matter if it’s a water heater, the air conditioning unit, or the heater. Everything is $1,000 and you have to pay out of pocket. But overall, I have not had any real great problems.

I wish AHS would be easier to contact. Every time that I would contact them, they would send me the same guy that I don’t like fixing my appliances, the one I had a bad experience with. Then I had to call them and need to get a hold of somebody, which would take about 45 minutes. I had to explain to them that I don’t want this guy working on my appliances, that I need a different one because he’s already wounded me and he wants me to do stuff that I don’t even know and I’m not an electrical savvy guy.

But the one who did my microwave was really nice and professional. He came here thrice because he couldn’t get the part. When he actually couldn’t fix it, they told me if they could just come over and take it and then bring it back when it’s working. So, they took the microwave. After less than four days, they fixed it. It was really good. He came back and installed it. It’s working perfectly fine now.

I live in a small town and American Home Shield usually gets somebody two to three hours away to fix things. It takes time for the company to come out here and they don't give us the first preferential treatment. We had an electric company come out and the interaction with the techs wasn't too pleasant. At first, we had somebody who just said our furnace needed to be clicked on, and he did it for two minutes. He turned off the fuse box that went out. But we turned around and had to call them back because it wouldn't heat. The electric company didn't come back right away and it took about two or three weeks for them to come back. They checked it out and they were gonna fix it that day, but then they said that they couldn’t fix it and that it needed to be replaced.

I wish American Home Shield would try and get somebody closer because we had somebody 45 minutes away before to fix our electricity, and they were quick. Nevertheless, I have been satisfied with American Home Shield. I was looking once into another company because it was totally cheaper, but in a year’s time, they didn’t fix anything. The only thing they did was take my money. I went back to American Home Shield and will not leave. I wouldn't be without the warranty from them and I recommend it to several people at our church.

We recently had plumbing and pool claims with American Home Shield. I had several drains in the house that were backing up and branching out through the house and I submitted a claim for it online and their website seemed to be fairly reasonable. It would be nice though if there was a way to update a claim and I can select multiple related items when I create a ticket. If I forget an item, I can't update the ticket. Once it's done, it's done and when I called the guy in, I got the runaround.

It’s frustrating and expensive since I have to create a new ticket and pay another deductible, but the quality of service was pretty good. The plumbing repair was quick and the only problem was I reported it over the weekend. I used to get a little frustrated when I find something on the weekend and it's too late, especially when I couldn’t take a shower and I worried about flushing the toilet. But other than that, the contractors came out quickly and generally the response on the claims that we've had have been pretty quick.

The other issue was with the pump and there was confusion there. I heard a little noise and then it was louder. The next day, it was a lot louder. The next day, it was just an imminent failure but AHS canceled the ticket. I got the runaround in going through to try and get it cleared up. At one point, they thought it was a warranty pump because it had been less than a year. They sent out the guy from the manufacturer and he said that they only warranty if it's the whole system - the motor and the pump. It was only the motor that was replaced last year, so they couldn't warranty it. That just got us back and forth between them and the tech doing it and then AHS. There was confusion about whether it should be covered and it went on and on.

I've also had difficulties getting through the phone when I had wanted to talk to somebody at AHS. The guy I ended up talking to about the pump issue ended up calling sales and having them transfer me. The online experience has been far better than trying to talk to anybody. Also, I forgot to report that there was also a problem with the pool controller when I reported a problem with the pump. The controller is controlling but I can’t read the LCD panel. If I push the buttons and know what I’m doing, I can cycle through it and make it work but over half of it is not visible, so I can't tell what state it's in. I called to try to add that on the ticket and the rep said that he couldn't do it unless he got a report with an issue from the person that they sent out. The person that they sent out said that there was no way they could do it and that they couldn’t look at it unless AHS told them to look at it.

This ticket with the pool still hasn’t been finished yet and it has been about a month now. I couldn't use the pool. I got a separate cleaning system and I’m having a hard time treating the pool. I was able to circulate the water through the pool but I couldn't circulate it through the filter. I could circulate chemicals and balance but without the filter, it was really frustrating. This issue with the pool pump has been a big mess. But the product has been shipped and a tech is scheduled for tomorrow. In general, I've been happy with American Home Shield.

My air conditioner quit working. Two bedrooms were not receiving any air flow. I put in a request for service and American Home Shield responded immediately and Anthem Air Conditioning responded the next morning setting up an appointment 3 days later (they could come the following day but I was unavailable). The technician arrived on time and was very pleasant and professional. Upon completion of his inspection, he had replaced the filter (very dirty) stating this would cause poor air flow. He also suspected a probable dirty coil.

This is from my copy of his report: "Started unit up had low suction. checked filter completely clogged (washable kind beyond washing). Replaced filter 16x25x1 suction and discharge were good. took amp draws on comp and fan below RLA, customer complained lack of airflow to certain bedrooms, the filter would cause this but also a lot of dirt in blower unit compartment. Believe evap coil may also be partially dirty good suction and superheat so not completely plugged. Unit is cooling fine at this time. Unit holds 6-7 lbs R-22. if coil needs to be removed and cleaned, condenser coil fins are deteriorating. Recommend upgrade program due to age of equip unit is 5 ton gas split up flow 80% 80,000 BTU." I was advised by the tech I would be responsible for the cost of the R-22 and it would cost 600-700 dollars.

I received a call from Anthem stating they had talked with American Home Shield and had been authorized to fix the unit. They went on to explain I would be responsible for the R-22 and the cost would be $1300.00, as it cost $100/lbs. I told her I could not afford that and she became very snippy and rude. I declined service at this time. An hour later I received a call from American Home Shield stating the same. Your representative stated Anthem had told them the coil was completely blocked and needed replacement. I told her that was not what the tech told me and read to her my copy of recommendations. She stated she could only go by what Anthem had told American Home Shield. I asked if you received a copy of the recommendation and was told that you do not and only get a phone message. Your representative also stated that the person she had talked to at Anthem was not a very pleasant person.

I also questioned the cost for me. Was told I would have to take that up with Anthem that you could not help me. I told your representative I was extremely frustrated, literally hot under the collar, 105 degrees outside and 90 degrees in my house, and asked how to cancel out of the program. She said she would transfer me to the retainment department and upon doing so got a recording saying the length of wait time was over 2 minutes and refer to contract and a hang up.

I have called 5 different air conditioning companies in the area and found the charges for the coolant $75, $125 and $100 for 3 companies. I asked 3 companies how much coolant would be required and was told by two between 6-7lbs and the third 8 lbs max. This is the same as what the tech told me. Why the 1300.00 charge??? I called American Home Shield again today and reexplained everything and was asked to hold. Music played for a few minutes then the call was dropped. Very POOR customer service. Company does not help resolve issues. Still don't know how to cancel service.

They are telling me it gonna be 7 days before they can get the unit to the air conditioner company. Then they will schedule to install at a convenient time for them. It’s not ok. Then they are still charging extra if I’m gonna pay to have the thing replaced and have to wait 11+ days to get it done. Why do I need the warranty company. I could pay the AC company and have it done the next day. The first time I used them for something it took over 2 months to get the issue fixed. On top of that when you call it literally takes them 45 mins to answer the phone then they need to transfer you and it takes that person 45 mins to answer the phone and then it happens once more and then they say I need to do this then call you back then you never get a call so the process starts again.

Even the "Not Fixed?" button on the closed service call takes me to "Request Service", for a new fee. The washer drain was backing up. AHS sent a plumber for the $80 fee. The man said there was no cleanout and quoted me $1300 for the job. I called another plumber, who for $165 used the vent pipe to clear the blockage. Now I can't reach anyone at AHS to refund my service fee. Seems only fair but they won't talk and there's no contact or email on the website. Anything having to do with air conditioning or water heater systems, expect to be "held hostage". AHS drags their feet on these, presumably in hopes that you will pay to fix it yourself, rather than wait in the heat, or without hot water. Sent out an A/C company that charged me $500 [not covered by AHS] then A/C broke down 2 weeks later & told me I needed a whole new system. Drug their feet to tell AHS anything & when they found out they couldn't give me a quote [see above charge $500], they said I just needed a compressor & AHS only paid $475 - I had already replaced my system with another company for $9100 [due to heat in Texas] 1/2 hour on hold every time you call them - no resolution - They just want you off the phone. Also does not cover color replacement [stainless, etc.] of appliances, so you have to cover the difference.

There was no word from anyone for two weeks so we called and they said that they had screwed up and never ordered the replacement. They assured us that they had now ordered it with expedited shipping.

It is now October and there is still no word from them. We have called and waited on hold until we were forced to hang up. September is one of the hottest months here and it has been absolutely horrific. At this point it has become clear that American Home Shield has no intention of ever actually paying for the new compressor and they are just waiting for us to break down and buy something ourselves. I can’t see how anyone would actually pay this company money. Our washer has also broken down during this time but there is no way I will pay them the service fee to come out here and do nothing, I will just buy a new washer, it’s far less hassle.

I had a problem with my breaker and they sent an electrician to fix it. He was prompt and courteous. I also filed a claim to have a washing machine repaired that they claimed was unrepairable. The option that they gave me to replace it was minimal, so I just took the cash and bought my own washing machine. That was three weeks ago. Then for the third case that I claimed, they never called me back so I just said, “Forget it.” It's not the best service. It's just okay and I'm not sure I'm gonna renew.

The icemaker on my refrigerator had broken and I appreciated that the contractor who was assigned called me to reschedule. He said his schedule had cleared up earlier than he thought and that he could come three days earlier than we had planned, which really helped with my schedule as well. It was great dealing with him and the ice maker has been working perfectly since. It's like it's brand-new. I'm glad I had the warranty when I needed it. Plus it's worth the money. It paid for itself and it gives me peace of mind that if something breaks, it's not going to be a massive hit to my savings account if it's just a simple little repair. I've even recommended American Home Shield to my parents and they are starting their plan as well.

I have a few expensive appliances in my house, like a Sub-Zero fridge and a Dacor oven. American Home Shield wanted to replace my Dacor oven, which is $5,000, with a $1,000 GE. I ended up working something out and in general, I am happy with them. However, if something breaks down beyond repair, they’ll replace it with whatever they wanna replace it with but not with the quality and the value.

They have one company here that works on high-end appliances and I keep telling them that I only wanna work with Professional Appliance Repair who knows how to work on these appliances. I'm always fighting to get AHS to hire them to do the work for me. When I spoke to Professional Appliance, they said that AHS always try to go with a cheaper company first who don’t know what they’re doing. Then, they constantly call Professional Appliance who do know what they’re doing to fix up the messes. I want Professional Appliance Repair to come to me to begin with, not to fix up a mess. I understand the desire to try to get the work for cheaper, but in the long run, I and they are paying more money. It doesn’t seem fair that I should be paying more money.

When I called the vendor and asked why they were not coming up, they said AHS probably took them off again because AHS doesn't wanna call them so much. However, they have always been able to call and get themselves put back on. I'm waiting for a repair job and I haven't heard back from AHS yet, which is too stressful for me. I'm constantly on the phone with them about that. If I request a vendor that has been in their vendor list, they should keep the vendor in their list for people who have high-end appliances. I always submit claims over the phone for that reason. I'm fighting for a need every time and you can only fight for what you need when you're speaking on the phone about it. They should have a page that asks who I would like to be my vendor.

In general, the people I've spoken to are pleasant but I’ve also had experiences where AHS sent me somebody to fix a refrigerator and they not only did not fix it but broke it beyond repair and I needed a new refrigerator. If they send somebody like that to work on my Sub-Zero or Dacor and break it beyond repair, I get left with having to replace a Sub-Zero. I also had contractors who said they finished the job but didn’t. I lead a very busy life and sometimes I don’t have an hour to spend on the phone. I know there is a problem and that it wasn’t fixed, but I put off calling AHS because I knew it was gonna be at least an hour phone call, and I didn’t have an hour very often. Then, I ended up forgetting about it and by the time I called back, it was past the 60 days and I have to pay another $75 fee. Although it could be a bit easier and less stress-free, I'm happy that I have AHS and that I have someone to call when something breaks down.

I have been with American Home Shield for 12 years and when we had issues, it was apples to apples, meaning, we had a top-of-the-line softener and it took AHS two months to find the equipment, which I found right online instantly. Still, they bought a top-of-the-line water softener as a replacement. But with my garbage disposal, the one they gave me was pure junk. Even the fellow who came here said he had never heard of the brand. That it's probably made in China. What happened was, we had a garbage disposal that was with us for eight years. It finally went out so they replaced it. But the new garbage disposal lasted a little over a year. So I spoke to AHS and said the original disposal I had was a couple of $100s. They replaced it with a $50 unit whose brand name I've never heard before.

My wife got a good garbage disposal at Costco and we had a handyman put it in. The handyman said that the one he replaced that was from AHS has the whole inside rusted. It's supposed to be stainless steel and yet it was all rusted inside. So I'm very dissatisfied with the quality that American Home Shield allows to come out.

As for my recent claim, the garage door would start out and go back up again by itself. I looked through the paperwork on the garage door but I couldn't figure it out. The tech I spoke with was personable, although he didn't offer any information. When I asked what should I do to maintain the garage door, he said that for $45 he will come out and do a service call. He did offer to do something, but he was standing on the ladder, and it would’ve looked funny if he came down and then asked me to do it. What he did though was turn a little screw and the garage door has been working fine. My experience with American Home Shield was great. The contractor did exactly what I wanted him to do and he had to come back a couple of times, but I'm very happy with Mark's Appliance Service and American Home Shield. AHS's claims process was easy. I went on the internet, which was a lot easier for me, and filed my claim. And then the second time, I had to get them back and I talked to the lady. So far, American Home Shield is doing a good job and I appreciate it.

I had an issue with the air conditioning unit. There was a piece that needed to be replaced ‘cause it was freezing over and so, my AC wasn’t working. The claims agents from AHS who assisted me were straightforward. They said someone would come out and look at it and they would let us know what needed to be done, whether it was something that needed to be replaced all the way or whether it was fixable.

While I didn't have any problems with American Home Shield, the company that came out to fix my AC was not pleased with them. The guy let me know that American Home Shield has a history of making it difficult to get the “okay” to do certain things. And he went on and on for a while about having work issues with AHS and that they were having a difficult time servicing for American Home Shield. But everything was done smoothly and quickly and the repair was done within a week. Since the repair, my AC is working perfectly. In closing, I recommend American Home Shield all the time cause of the peace of mind I get. And because I don’t have to deal with stuff breaking down. Everything is taken care of.

We had a leak in the pipe that went into the toilet. I filed a claim with AHS online and I had a call. The contractor went out to Lynnhaven to fix up a plumbing thing and I paid the deductible online. Mike, who had the house listed, met the guy out there. The first guy who came wouldn't wait because he didn't have a gate code. Mike had to wait three hours then and another two hours the second time. I sold the house and the warranty was supposed to be transferred into the buyer's name. The buyers haven't complained about the repair. I've had to fight with AHS all the time and the experience has really been a nightmare. Contractors are supposed to go out within so many days, but it takes forever, especially when I got an air conditioning problem. Plus, they have all kinds of excuses. I've had to call Stephanie, our representative, for her to straighten things out.

I also call another special number and, except for one thing, they help me out most of the time. I've had to wait on the phone for 45 minutes though, which was horrible. Then when you get hung up on, you have to call back again and wait another 45 minutes to an hour. I should not have to call the rep every time to get something taken care of. It's like vendors don't want to really do it and just want you to forget about it and go on. AHS canceled one house on me because they had too many claims. One claim was a double-up claim and it shouldn't have been. Now I have First American on that house. I have American Home Shield on the house I have presently in Santa Maria. That has been okay when I've had to call them.

Submitting claims over the phone with American Home Shield takes forever. It's ridiculous. However, I still call because online, I can't explain what the issue is. I just click a box but there's nowhere to type in the issues. If there will be a comment box, it would definitely improve the online process a lot and then I could use that. Recently, I submitted a claim for our washing machine. The tub was rubbing on the bottom. The first contractor that American Home Shield sent out, AAA Appliances, never called me and couldn't get anything worked out. I was trying to talk to AAA but they wouldn't even text me, so I had to get that claim re-filed.

I went with a different company, GE Appliance, and they were wonderful. They did an absolutely excellent job and I was very happy with them. The GE tech heard what I had heard from our washing machine before. He did a really good job and was able to fix the problem. Everything has been okay, but I think one of the issues is coming back. I’m listening to it and if it is, the GE tech might have to come back as well.

Scheduling a service with American Home Shield is too difficult. One time, the garbage disposal was leaking all over, so I had to file a claim. For some reason, American Home Shield cancelled my appointment, so I had to call back and stay on the phone with them. I also had another claim for the air conditioner. Again, I had AAA Appliance, which I guess is the jack-of-all-trades, and I was concerned about that. They cancelled their appointment too. Then American Home Shield rescheduled everything and I was on hold for 45 minutes while they did that. Hers & His Plumbing showed up but AAA never called me or did anything, so I had to call again and find out what went on. I had to reschedule and I was on hold again for 30 minutes.

I spent more time on hold with American Home Shield but if I had that comment box online, I wouldn't have to do this. There were more issues with the air conditioner, and online, I can only click one box. I can't put all the issues on at one time. But if I could, I'd file the claim online, click the issues, explain everything out and be done with it rather than be back on hold again with the reps. They also asked me if I wanted to stay on hold for 20 minutes or if I wanted a callback, and I told them to call me back. After the call, they told me I was next but they put me on hold for 50 minutes before they picked up. Finally, AAA called me back yesterday and we have an appointment set up with them now. Still, American Home Shield needs to know that their claims process is not user-friendly.

The contractor AHS sent was great. They came but had to come back because it started acting up again. They had to order a part, which took time. It’s not their fault, but at the same time, if you have a broken refrigerator you shouldn’t have to wait another whole week on parts. But despite that, I’m happy with my experience with them.

When we were up for renewal, they declined to offer us a new policy for 2018. When we asked for an explanation, no one could give us one. We paid upfront each year and never failed to pay our service fees. Although we are happy with our new company (AFC), so far, we wanted to warn potential customers that AHS is "great", until you need something replaced, rather than repaired.

I've had the worst experience of my life with this company. They do not care. I honestly don't know how they have 4 stars on this page - some reviews must be fake because we are out $5,000 and they have DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but offer us $500, which doesn't even pay for the cost of our contract with them. Let me be clear: We are OUT $1,000 (contract monthly rate and freon costs) + $4,000 for a new A/C unit which is mandatory in NC because the parts can't be mixed up under code. American Home Warranty - essentially, stole $5000 of our hard-earned money, not to mention our TRUST. We would be better off if we had never heard of them at all.

Here's the whole story: My name is Briana ** and I'm a local Apex resident. We paid American Home Shield $600 for a warranty to cover our appliances and A/C. We specifically chose them because they cover A/C issues and replacement and we were hoping to avoid any huge costs to our bottom line - in case anything went wrong, as we have two kids and lots of bills.

This month, we had a problem with the A/C at our home and we were so thankful we had the home warranty. We immediately called them, and they sent contractors who told us we had to first pay for Freon to "see if there was a leak," in our HVAC system. We paid $100 for them to come out and $370 for the freon because they didn't cover this cost. Well, the freon leaked out within 24 hours. They returned to our house to try and see what the problem was. The contractors pointed to our coil and air handler and said they weren't working. My husband asked the contractor, "How much does a coil cost?" and he said, "Around $2000 to replace, but you'll need to replace the whole system because the state of NC requires that you have all parts to code."

We talked to the company numerous times, spending hours out of our day on the phone with their agents. Their solution? They said the part cost $500, not $2000. They would only pay the contractors (who were their choice of contractors) $500. We talked to 3 contractors - they ALL quotes us between $4,000-$45000 minimum. We were left with a $4,500 dollar option to pay on our own - after we had already spent over $1,000 to try and fulfill "their requirements."

They say: they don't put things up to NC code. We say: this is a terrible way to treat a consumer who has put their trust in your warranty. Their very own contractors said they have to get the money somewhere - so that $500 doesn't cover their ACTUAL cost of $2000 for the part plus the other $2500 we will pay because we cannot just replace the part, we have to replace the whole system under NC law. Can you help us? This company is defrauding other consumers. The worst part is, we are out more money from buying this warranty than we would be if we had never bought the warranty at all. They have provided nothing to us - we would have been better off without it.

Tried to get our house re-keyed and requested the service through AHS. Waited a week and nothing ever happened. Called the contractor and they said they don't work through AHS since they never pay. Called AHS and of course waited on hold for 25 minutes and finally talked to a representative. They proceeded to search for another contractor for 2 days and said I needed to call back then. So I waited on hold for 40 minutes just so they could say they were unsuccessful. I then had to call someone else to learn how to get my own contractor.

I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes to listen to a reimbursement process I had to follow. So we went through the process and simply called the same contractor to perform the work. He called and they said he was approved. Submitted the reimbursement and now two months later they mail me back saying that he is not an approved contractor even though he is the one they initially set me up with. Why do I pay for this crap if I can't even use it and I spend multiple days trying to get a hold of them and contractors when that's what I pay them to do? Would never recommend them to anyone and have called the realtor company to tell them to stop recommending them to new customers.

American Home Shield sent out a nice guy from Precision Appliance Repair for my leaking dishwasher. He took it all apart and said that the interior door gasket was torn up, but the exterior door gasket was good and it should not be leaking. He also said that we had and oversudsing problem and advised me to change the soap and to call them back if I continued having problems. So we changed soap and it quit sudsing, but it was still leaking. I called the company back and I was told that they were gonna refer it back to AHS to get a different company and that it wouldn’t cost me anything since the problem hadn’t been resolved.

I requested for the next guys to call me half an hour before they’d get to our home because I couldn’t sit at home for four hours in the middle of a workday and wait for them to show up. However, they did not call me prior to showing up. My wife was in the shower getting ready for work when they came and then she called me, so I showed up. The guys took it all apart and went back and forth, but they did not know what was wrong with it and they couldn’t physically see anything wrong with it. They said that it might need to be replaced and they would call AHS who would follow up with me. However, the company never called and followed up with American Home Shield. Four days later, I called American Home Shield and they said they hadn’t heard anything and assumed it was fixed.

At that time, American Home Shield said that they would send a third person out from Sears Home Appliance. We originally submitted the claim in the middle of August and it is already the middle of October and it is still not fixed. But, I feel a bit better about it because Sears is a reputable company. If Sears Home Appliance can’t figure it out, I will assume that they will say it needs to be replaced, at which time it is included in the contract.

My experience with American Home Shield has been typical of any other aftermarket warranty program. AHS is quick to take the money but they are slow to fix the problem when it is something they are liable for. But it was included with our VA home loan and the sellers had the warranty. We upgraded the warranty and paid an extra 100 bucks to get coverage on everything. So, even if it takes a year, as long as the dishwasher gets fixed, it will pay for itself because it only cost us 100 bucks.

I let American Home Shield know that I am not particularly pleased and they are not paid an annual fee to not fix my appliances. I spent $600 to replace a garage door motor and another $350 to replace a broken garage door spring that was not covered under their program. Their program covers the dishwasher and I expect the dishwasher to be fixed.

On the other hand, American Home Shield’s customer service is good. They are decent people to work with, however, like every other warranty program, they are trying to use the cheapest contractors they can. Instead of getting somebody that knows what they are doing, they get two guys that barely speak English showing up in a white, unmarked van. And that’s how it’s gone from day one and I’m tired of some random dude in a white van showing up. AHS needs to get a reputable contractor out to fix the dishwasher or they just need to buy me a new one.

The guy right now fixing my microwave said that the part would take about three days but there hasn't been a follow up yet. So, we still haven't got the microwave fixed.

American Home Shield originally sent Cali Pool which misdiagnosed what was wrong with my pool. Cali Pool collected its service fee and was telling me that the entire system needs to be changed, and American Home Shield is not covering, and then they would give me a price to cover it. Had I not had the bad experience with them two years earlier, I would have probably said, “Okay, go ahead and do it.” Once I reached out to AHS and told them that Cali Pool has been at my house a couple of years prior and that they are not really an expert with the pool and that they’re just out there to collect their deductible, AHS agreed to send me another company without asking me for the service charge. A-1 Pool came, the technician looked at the equipment and he immediately found out what was wrong. It was just a switch that was flicked in a wrong direction.

I told American Home Shield that I want that particular vendor to be taken off the list for future purposes for my repair, and they accepted that. The fact that they accepted to send A-1, and the fact that A-1 was really a high-quality company which diagnosed the problem correctly made me feel valued and I felt that this is a company that backs up its client. I was, overall, very happy with the way they handled it. I sometimes go online and submit a claim but when something is a bit more complicated and I have to explain what’s going on, then I would call in.

I have had very positive experience with American Home Shield. Everyone that AHS sent have expertise to easily solve the problem, whether it’s a plumber or electrician. Cali Pool was the only one that was a flaw. When I made the phone call originally and explained what is going on with my swimming pool, I specifically asked not to send Cali Pool, but they still sent them. I don’t know whether there was a miscommunication. Nonetheless, I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and I've never had any problems with them that’s why I have stayed with them. I've recommended them to other members of my family and my friends, and they all use American Home Shield.

My tenant's garbage disposal has been getting in trouble. They had to keep pressing the reset button, and it finally wouldn’t run again so I called AHS. I talked to the plumber who was coming on a service call and told him it was a 12-year-old garbage disposal and the tenants said it was all rusted, so probably it would need a new one rather than just Band-Aid it and they had to come back again. Instead of replacing it, they got it to work again.

The part that’s most annoying is that aside from my premium, I pay $100 for the service call and the reality is that they could’ve put a new disposal and fixed it for that same 100 bucks. If I would've called the plumber, that’s how much it would've cost, or I could’ve gone to Home Depot and bought one for 60 bucks, and the other 40 would've been for installing it, instead of putting a Band-Aid on it. Another month or two months from now I have a feeling that I’m gonna have to call again. But as far as getting the guy out there, that was perfect and I couldn’t ask for better. We have three houses and three contracts with AHS. I had a plumbing problem at my Pennsylvania house, and they sent a plumber who I used to use when I lived there. He fixed it and everything was great.

My house was getting older but it is a great house. So we were considering selling it and my sister talked me into the home warranty. She said that they've a great experience with American Home Shield and that we should get it, too, and protect our house instead of selling it. It was worrying me that I was gonna have to start facing repairs, so I asked around. I got a lot of negative feedback not only about American Home Shield but about the home warranties in general . People said that they weren’t worth it, that they only replace parts and only repaired things not replace them. To me, I was fine with them repairing my things as long as it was covered. I went ahead with my sister's recommendation and purchased American Home Shield.

They’ve been wonderful and I love them. When I submit a claim, I usually call over the automated thing and within an hour I have an email telling me who’s gonna come out. Then that company calls me on the same day and they come right away. The process is so easy. Also, I have been so pleasantly impressed with AHS and I would recommend them to a lot of people.

One time, we had a side-by-side and the refrigerator part was not cooling. The freezer was working but I kinda noticed it was icing. So I had to use my little refrigerator for the food I had. I put in a claim with AHS and they sent Jimino’s out. Jimino’s ordered a cluster control and told me that American Home Shield had to order it. Then the tech fixed the refrigerator temporarily so I wasn’t really in a rush. But all of a sudden, the refrigerator started warming again. So I called and Jimino’s told me that I had to call American Home Shield because they haven’t gotten the part yet. I called American Home Shield and they told me I had to talk to appliance replacement. Then I found out that they couldn’t get the part for my refrigerator, so they offered me a replacement and I took the cash out.

I also submitted a claim for the air conditioner and I had an issue when they couldn’t get anybody for two weeks and I couldn’t wait that long. It was so hot and dry. But AHS was able to take care of that. Also, there was one contractor with a plumbing claim that I had that was awful and very unprofessional. He messed up my hardwood flooring which I didn’t do anything about because American Home Shield has been so good and it wasn’t their fault. But I called and told them what happened, and they switched vendors and sent me a new one who was great. So everybody else has been wonderful.

AHS has been great with us and I tell people all the time not to listen to the negatives because you don't know why their opinion is negative, and instead, listen to the people that have had positive experiences. I would also tell them to go with American Home Shield because I did some research online, looked at the reviews, and listened to people. I got a lot off my boss who said that every time he'd call for a repair or a claim, the warranty company would cancel. I got worried because there had been a couple of repairs that I’ve done myself because I was so afraid of getting cancelled. But other people said that they were not gonna cancel and that was why you have the warranty.

The drain line of my air conditioner was clogged up and it was coming out of the pan which dripped outside rather than going into the drain pipes inside the house. I filed a claim on the phone with AHS and it was pretty quick to do. It only took a few minutes and the rep I talked to was good. The tech had to come out and clear the drain line. He was a nice guy and he did a really good job. He had been out about a month earlier to replace a computer board and both times, he was friendly and took care of the problem. AHS is a good service. I’ve used them twice since I’ve signed up with them and I’ve been really happy with them so far.

A pipe burst and the basement in my house was flooded. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the claims reps were extremely helpful. They gave me the number of the plumber. At first, I thought the pipe was just leaking but the pipe ended up bursting. I was able to get the plumber and he did the repair as an emergency situation. My dealings with the plumber was fantastic. When the pipe burst, he was on another service call and yet he still walked me through what I needed to do to turn off the water in my home. When he was finished with that other job, he came over and fixed my pipe quickly. I was very pleased with the high priority that was given to my problem and everything has been fine since he came out.

I was happy with the quick response. I’ve tried other home protection companies and the response has not been as quick nor the contractors as good. But the prices of AHS are way too high versus other home warranty companies. The premium is almost $60 and the service fee is a $100 if you want your entire home covered and most people would want that. I’ve left them three times but I’ve come back because it was less money with the other companies but their response to calls was horrible. At least, AHS responds within 24 hours and I appreciate that.

Another thing I don’t like, though, is that people usually have more than one refrigerator but AHS doesn’t cover anything that’s not inside the home. Most people have a refrigerator or a freezer outside in their garage and my understanding is that AHS doesn’t cover any of that. Despite that and even though AHS is a little pricey, they're the best home warranty company that I’ve had and you can’t beat their response times.

The oven was broken. I called in a claim with American Home Shield and it was pretty easy. I told them what was wrong and they said they'd send someone out to look at it. The contractors have to do it within 24 hours, so they usually contact me between then. For this claim, the stove was 40 years old and it was the original stove here in my house when it was built. The techs thought that was funny and they replaced it because there was no way they could get the parts to fix it. They sent a replacement from GE, a company out of Grand Prairie or Dallas, and they had to bring it down here. Then they were supposed to put it in but they couldn’t because it is propane. So they had to call the original people to come out and look at it, and they came back and put it in for me. It took a couple weeks to get a stove, but it wasn’t too bad.

I also filed a claim when the central heat went out and the techs that AHS sent out fixed that by putting a whole new unit in. Then my icemaker went out and I also had plumbing leaks and they fixed that. So far, the contractors I've had have all been very professional and really good. I have American Home Shield for seven years now and I’ve never even looked at a different one. They cover everything and they're not expensive. They’ve always been quick at fixing stuff, too. They get things done within 24 hours where they somewhat get the contractors to come and get everything fixed and set up. They are a good company.

I have a washer problem that started last March. We had four guys come out to try and fix it. But they couldn't fix it. The guys from the first company came and said they had to get another part. They got the part, came out, and said it was fixed. It worked for two washes, and then it stopped working. Then another company came out and said the guys from the first company didn’t fix the entire situation. And so, they tried to fix it. They ordered the part, which took another three weeks. When that part came in, they tried to put it in and fix it, and said, the part's not gonna fix it. They said my machine is completely gone and that I needed a new machine.

Three weeks later, we got something from American Home Shield saying that I have the option to either have them buy us a new machine based off the make and model or take the check. We told them that we want to pay the check because we were buying a new house and moving. Two months later, we're still waiting on the check.

My dishwasher quit on me for the third time and I called American Home Shield. I had the motherboard replaced on it because it was like the first time where the machine worked for a few times, then, come to find out, it wasn't totally working. Then, the second time, I used the machine one time after the techs came out and it worked for one wash. However, it never even finished draining out. The machine cut off and wouldn't turn on at all for me. The last time, Barfield's Appliances & Part came out and they said I needed two or three parts. They sent the claim to American Home Shield and they approved for 572.33 to replace the appliance.

I was very satisfied with the interactions I've had with the contractors. Anthony, the contractor, seemed very knowledgeable about what he was talking about and he checked everything. I zapped him once with the electricity because I hit the wrong breaker, but he didn't yell at me. He knew what he was talking about and he told me he would put the part in. He also said that he didn't know if AHS would accept the claim or not, but I may just end up getting a new washer. AHS emailed me and said to have the parts put in. There were many times that I had called AHS to have the machine fixed and I figured I'm just gonna get a new one because it is costing me as much to get a new one anyway. AHS is great and I had my daughter get them when she was in North Carolina.

Our air conditioner quit cooling. Although it would still fan, there was no cold air coming out. I made an online claim to American Home Shield. The website was okay but I had a problem with it because we had a heat pump as opposed to a central air, so it kept thinking I was talking that the air wouldn’t work. But it’s a heat pump, so it was a little confusing.

I put in the claim on a Friday and the following Monday was a holiday. The company American Home Shield assigned the claim to doesn’t work on weekends or holidays, so it was gonna end up being four days before anybody would come out and we had 90 plus weather. I had to tell the company that it ain’t gonna work and I’m gonna call American Home Shield back and get somebody else. I did that and the rep found someone. She had me hold on while she contacted them to make sure that they could get to it and they were gonna get to it the very next day. When the contractor came, I followed him around. He went outside to check the unit and I stayed there with him to try and figure out what was going on. Also, I was curious about how it works because we never had a heat pump before.

Everything has been perfectly fine since the repair. However, American Home Shield's $75 fee is a little much, especially when it turns out to be something simple like when I had them come one time for ceiling fans and the technician didn’t have to do anything. He just flipped some little switch and that worked. They also ought to cover the annual inspection of our air conditioning and heating unit. We had Sears warranty on our other house and they cover that. You could get that once a year and it didn't cost. Still, American Home Shield is good.

I don’t have any complaints so it was good. However, the service sometimes takes a long time. I put in claims for the house that I rent out and it took them a long time to come back with parts. The people that AHS contracted with made multiple visits and that is something that AHS could talk to them about. Having a home warranty with AHS will save you a lot of money if something messed up in your house. So, it's worth the $50 a month. It comes in handy when you need it.

I went with a larger warranty with American Home Shield that would take care most of everything I have in my house, but then I’ve come to find out that some of it are not really under that. Also, some of the contractors that American Home Shield has sent out could have been better people. When I filed a claim for my water heater that was shorting out in some way, Greenway, the contractor that American Home Shield sent, wanted to put in something new and charge me $400 for that. I didn’t agree with that because when my water heater was put in a few years back, I didn’t have to have that on there. That's a lot of money and I have not paid Greenway because that's not fair. And they haven't called me back. So then, I had to leave my other hot water heater up there because they said the opening now wasn’t big enough for them to bring it down and that I would have to have all that taken down before they could break it.

I didn’t talk to American Home Shield about that since it’s really terrible to get in touch with them. You can be on the phone for more than an hour before getting someone which they should need to take care of better. I then paid American Home Shield for another company to come out. A guy came from Beacon Hill to fix the water heater and he was very unhappy. He was so nice, though, and their company has been super. They’ve done their job really well. He just didn’t understand why Greenway wasn't responsible for getting the water heater out of my attic.

I also have had a claim in for my sink and this is with Greenway too. The guy who was supposed to fix it said he couldn’t fix it. He also told me that he would get back with me in three or four weeks and that they've ordered it, but he never called me back and I paid $100 for that. Another thing that the guy told me when he came here was that I would be given the contractor's grade faucet. I have a regular one which is the silver kind but not the glossy type, and I was told they would not put it back in like that.

American Home Shield needs to drop the contractors that are a little iffy. Of course, they need someone to come out, but it's better off to wait a little while for the ones that are not that way. It's a lot to think about, but I've had this warranty for a long time now and they’ve replaced a lot of things with my central which was my main concern. So, as long as they can replace the parts, I'll keep my warranty with them.

Now my whole air conditioning has basically been rebuilt. I’ve also had a dishwasher that they’ve come out and fixed a couple of times.

I have a refrigerator that is barely functioning, and a guy came out for it and he couldn't find anything wrong. I went out and bought thermometers to be able to watch the temperatures 'cause he told me it should stay within a certain range. I told him that it was not staying in that range so he came back out, and then American Home Shield contacted me and said that they couldn't get the part that my refrigerator needed. So, they wanted me to take $1,700 and either take the one they had for me or go buy one that I like.

The one that I wanna get is not in stock and I’ve been waiting for it to come into stock, and I was gonna take the $1,700 and get it. Now I'm just hanging out with my freezer in the garage and not really putting a lot in the refrigerator. That's not American Home Shield’s fault as they’re willing to give me the money as soon as I’m able to buy a refrigerator. There’s just a backlog of shipments. It’s a Samsung refrigerator and it’s not one of the options that American Home Shield gave me. I'm just waiting for it to come in. We keep checking every week to see if it’s come in yet, and it hasn’t. Nevertheless, the guy that came out was very courteous, professional and kind.

They talk too much like, “Okay, I understand, but you are calling us because you have a problem, right?” All that kind of stuff is annoying. It takes way too much time on the phone. But when I get other folks, they are normal. They get right to the point. I also submit claims online and my complaint about that is because I have three houses with American Home Shield and these are rental homes. I have to discuss with a human not to charge the renter. It’s me who pays. In addition to that, they should offer an incentive, a discount, when a customer has more than one house. Other companies call and give me their spiel, and it’s cheaper. It is tempting to leave for that.

I also always say to please have the technician call me but they don’t. The last once, ACE Heating & Cooling didn’t. I had to call them, try to hunt them down and get that report from them. Even with the Third Generation, they did not call me back either. The renters are there when the contractors come out and the contractors are in a hurry. They're busy and they wanna get moving but I would like to have them call me. That’s been an issue.

ACE had been a good company though. They had to come back for a follow-up. We had six to eight days of trying to get the part for the compressor and that took too long. My renter moved out and we had to pay for the hotel. They chose the Marriott, which we had to put a limit on after a while. But the repair is complete now. American Home Shield does follow through.

I looked them up in the Better Business Bureau and found out that they had a horrible rating.

I called American Home Shield and complained. They refunded my deposit which was good and they did that in a timely manner. They claimed that they had vetted the contractor. I find that suspect as I’m a retired criminal investigator, I’ve done a little bit of this myself over time and it was not a reputable company. I was very dissatisfied to the point I was gonna cancel. And then I was very surprised. A representative from American Home Shield called me and said that they terminated their arrangement with the first company and that they entered an arrangement with Pop-A-Lock. When I bought my home and the contract was produced for me, I never had one single thing denied. When I call and submit a claim, I have a reply from American Home Shield's vendor and it’s always within 24 hours. The vendor would call and say, “I have a request on your behalf. Let’s set up a time to come out and look at it.” That is major because a customer is already frustrated when dealing with an issue then he has to wait two or three days to hear something and then another two days for the contractor to come out. The SLAs that AHS have with their vendors is topnotch. All the third-party contractors that come out have been professional and courteous.

My AC was out and it was the summertime, so it was hot. I had two systems and the company that came out claimed one of the systems wasn’t under the contract, which I called American Home Shield during that time. AHS was leagued with the contractor, but it was because of the wording the contractor used, which was not correct. I went back into my contract, read it thoroughly for myself, then called American Home Shield. They apologized profusely, put the quote as a transfer, so I would not have to pay another fee, and that was because I called them while the contractor was here.

Prior to the contractor starting to work, I told AHS that I I didn’t agree with the contractor as it was a repairable part, and because I did that, they had it documented, and we went back. They were able to transfer to another company. That took a few weeks, and it was just because of trying to align my schedule with the new contractor’s schedule. But everything was pretty seamless with the new contractor. He got the part and put it in, and everything’s working fine now. So, hands down, I like American Home Shield and I’ll continue to use them. They've been awesome and easy. I recommended them to a family member.

We called our pool person who said that it was not it and he showed us what was wrong with the salt cell. My husband wrote down what our pool person said and then I called ABNation back. The tech said that he did not know about that. While I paid for American Home Shield, I also had to pay $800 extra myself to have the pool thing fixed. So, I’m not a huge fan of American Home Shield.

An appointment with a contractor was set up immediately for them to come the next morning. The repair went well and the contractor was able to fix the AC the same day that they came. It was really great 'cause we didn't know exactly what was wrong with it. It's an older home and unit. My boyfriend was very happy to have it repaired and fixed. I'm glad American Home Shield is there too. It's a peace of mind. We appreciate American Home Shield's help and I'd recommend them.

When I try to call, the waiting time is long and I guess it's because there are so many people, but I found a way to get around that is to call early in the morning and American Home Shield picks up right away. Even though they say the easiest way to go is to do the claim with a computer, I called American Home Shield on the phone for my Sub-Zero refrigerator and the interaction was great. The contractor came out about four or five times and did the best they could. They tried different things and changed some parts.

Eventually, the second contractor came out after they were assigned the case and they tried something. They told me to keep an eye on the fridge and if the fix doesn't work then that's it. We can't go on because the wall of the refrigerator is too old, and it's gone as far as it can. The fridge kept the items cold and they didn't spoil, but it kept getting off signals. It will start warming up fast if you open the door and it will go back down again, but we knew that that wasn’t the proper operation of Sub-Zero. It's 18 years old and it couldn’t be repaired, so I went to the cash in lieu and set up my copayment for a new Sub-Zero.

I got a speedy response and American Home Shield didn’t haggle about my claim. They put me on hold for a couple of minutes, came back and made an offer. I accepted, went out and purchased a new one. Everything is going well. I'm waiting on my check from the cash in lieu department, and I'll be good. American Home Shield has been very good to me having all of my products as well as in my daughter’s home. I have a policy on all of her products too in her home just in case. I've had it for a long time. If the air conditioner goes out or something else happens, they're right there. I'd recommend them.

I submitted a claim for it but the AC went back to the temperature that was set in the house, so I had cancelled. When submitting a claim with AHS, I call and explain to them what’s going on. Their claims reps are very professional and they give me information and answer my questions. The contractor they sent out for my AC came in a good timeframe. He was very professional and he knew what he was doing. Also, he could’ve come the next day, but I wasn’t available. Overall, AHS is a good investment. If something happens in your home, you just pay them a fee for coming out instead of spending a whole lot of money.

Our microwave and dishwasher are old. The very first time I called American Home Shield was because of the microwave and the contractor came and pushed the reset button. Then, with the dishwasher that doesn't get things clean, a contractor looked at it and told me that everything was working fine. He said that it was the best I was gonna get. But that was not good because I take stuff out that is still dirty. Something should have been done about it but it there was not. Recently, I came home and there was no water in the house at all. We are on a well because we are in the country and the well pump went out. It is typical for the area and when I called American Home Shield, they contracted an amazing company. Patterson Well Drilling came out that night and told me that if it was not a quick fix then they will know what they need to do. They were came back at 6:30 the next morning then gone by 9 and everything has been okay.

The technician called me very soon, within a matter of hours, because I told them it was almost an emergency. I couldn't use my AC without drenching my ceiling and I didn't wanna drench my ceiling. A plumber first came out because I originally thought it was a piping issue with my solar water heater. We found out it wasn't that, it was the AC so I had to get a different technician from an AC company. The repair only took about an hour, which was about the time I expected it would take. My AC works fine now. My experience with American Home Shield was very positive. I have recommended AHS to many folks.

He said what he could do, what he had to do, and we set up times. It was under a time constraint because we were leaving for an extended period of time. He determined that the drain pump froze up and he was able to get the part. When we pulled the drain pump out, it had the impeller head moved from its housing, and it was causing the drain pump to cease. We got the part replaced before we left and my wife is loving the performance of our washer.

The air conditioner quit during the heat, the hundred degrees day. So I made the claim and it took about two and a half days for someone to get out. I expected that because of the heat though. He was also a little bit late but I think it was one of those things where the previous jobs kept holding him up. The contractor did call in advance that their buddy was running late but that he was still coming. It was about 9:30 at night when he finally showed up and he tried a couple of things immediately. When it didn't work, he took it apart and replaced the fan and the motor. Then it was up and running with no problem.

The only issue we had with American Home Shield was when we made a claim about some plumbing issues. We were trying to determine if we had a leak or not. We wanted to do a pressure testing and we clearly stated when we made the claim that that was what we needed done. But when the plumber came out, he didn't even come in the house. He said that they didn't do pressure testing and that it was not part of our warranty. American Home Shield tried to charge us the $75 but then a representative contacted us and we explained it. She waived the fee and credited us back our $75.

I also find it difficult when I call the representative. I think it's an offshore team and they're following a script. And if it's not on their script, they have no clue. So when I had the plumbing issue, I called the call center first to ask if they could help me. The lady was like, "Is it an act of God?" And I'm like, "No. He had nothing to do with it." I was trying to ask for a supervisor. She just didn't get it. I got so frustrated and I had to hang up. It's just the call center environment. We finally got a hold of them after I went to the website and we did a chat online. It was through a Yahoo Messenger-type thing. But still, what we needed got lost in translation. Aside from the plumbing issue, my oven has also quit now. I just took the plastic off from it a month ago and it's burnt a fuse. It can't be replaced so now I'm working with American Home Shield on the replacement of my oven. The people that they had sent out were perfect too. They did a great job helping me.

I've submitted two claims with American Home Shield online and I've had very quick responses for both. Within 24 hours, they called me back and after that, I got a call from the service provider that they contracted out. The techs are patient, very professional and knowledgeable with their skills and I really liked the last two techs that I got. The leaderboard on my washing machine was broken and the tech changed it. He ran his diagnostic tests and knew exactly what the problem was.

On the third time that they had to be here, I was at work and they told me they would give me 30 minutes to get here. He also changed my garbage disposal and was done within 15 minutes. He put it in the box, put the new one out and took the trash with him. They're very neat and don't make a mess. One guy had booties on his boots so I didn't have to clean up a mess either.

For the most part, I've been very successful and happy with the service that AHS has provided me. I also have options on how I wanna pay my deductible whether or not I want it to come out of my checking account, debit account or put on credit card. But they don't provide weekend services and if I could change anything, I would like to do Saturday services at times but it's understandable as it costs more for that. Both of the issues have been fixed and I've had nothing but a great experience.

We use the microwave a lot and when we had a problem with it, we had to do everything on the gas stove like warming the milk early in the morning. So that was a problem. Aside from that, the dishwasher door was also not latching properly. I submitted the claim online and the site is very easy, user-friendly and very helpful. It has all the information – what I can combine into one ticket, what I can undo and whatever reason that I cannot put things in the same ticket. But sometimes, I want to know what is happening right after raising the ticket. The vendor would say he might not be able to fix it within 24 hours and that it might take three to four days. If there is an online chat, it would be better.

The payment is also very high compared to other competitors. It’s a bit expensive so at least for the existing customer, it would be better if we get some discount. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield because the contractors that we get through them are professional and more experienced guys. Usually, contractors don’t have all the equipment they need to fix right away. So they would come back again within one or two days. But the contractors we had were very helpful and nice. Also, there won’t be any hassles in submitting the tickets with American Home Shield. They helped fix the dishwasher and the microwave is also working properly now.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and I explained to them what was going on. They looked for a provider in my area that would service me. The tech that AHS sent said that the icemaker was leaking water back into the fan and was causing the fan to freeze up. It wasn’t allowing the refrigerator and the freezer to get cold, so he replaced a part and the ref has been doing fine ever since.

I've done three claims with American Home Shield and they’ve sent contractors within two to five days. The contractors were very prompt and they normally called within 48 hours. One of the claims was not a good experience though as it took about two months. I finally called them and asked what was going on with the part and they reached out to their carrier. He didn’t report to them that he could not find the part for the washer but AHS made good and replaced my washer with a brand-new one. I had a series of broken stuff in my house. I came back from vacation and everything was broken. I had claims for my dryer, my water heater, my AC and my stove in the same week. I don't know if the electricity went off and something happened. But Home Shield came through for me. I got everything fixed with no hassle and I was really satisfied. So I've recommended them to a lot of people. I have a friend in North Carolina who's having a really hard time with her warranty. I told her to seriously consider Home Shield.

When I made the request, I had not set up the account online so I had to go in and they sent me the link. Once I had that link and I've set up my account on the initial login, filing the claim was very easy to do. If I was to do it on the phone, it’s done but it's too time-consuming. I would have to go through a whole different other stuff like pressing this then pressing that. Whereas when they already have my account online, I just go and make the request, and it's done.

The one who repaired my dryer was a really great guy. He was professional and he explained everything to me. Within two hours, he had it repaired and the dryer is working great now. The water heater took a little bit longer because my unit was so old and they had to wait. I had to replace some parts but the water heater was over 20 years so they don't make those anymore. I had to pay them to switch whatever they needed to switch in there. The guys who did the water heater were great though. The water is so nice and hot now. Two people can bathe in two different bathrooms and have hot water. And we still have hot water for washing. Before, we couldn't turn on the washing machine.

As for my stove, I liked it but it was so old. I was told parts for the stove weren't made anymore so we had to get a brand-new one. It was coming up on a holiday and I said I needed to cook because I had a family in town. Home Shield told me I could purchase one and they would reimburse me, which was really great. I went and purchased a stove, which I loved, and they reimbursed me my money. So that happened really great. The AC is working great too. The guy explained what he did up there and I figured what he was talking about.

In fact, all of the contractors were really good. I only had one bad experience and that was way back in the first call that I made with American Home Shield. I was pissed but Home Shield came through. And it wasn't them. It was the service person they sent out. The water heater was leaking back then and the service person told me they couldn't come until a week. But it was cold at the time so I called my friend who is a plumber and he came out with no charge. But then it started leaking again so I had to call back. Home Shield did their best though. When I called them and said the person never came, the lady said that if I gave our receipt, she was willing to reimburse me for the service I paid. So Home Shield had always been good. And since then, I've never had a problem.

It was a lesson learned also. Don't assume that the service provider will call Home Shield. You need to follow back up with Home Shield, call them back and say if your kids are sick. They would take care of it and expedite it for you. When my AC went out, my mom was visiting. She has asthma and it was hot in Virginia at the time. All I use is central air so they expedited the service person to come out. That was really great. I really like Home Shield's service. When you call for your services, you get help.

There was a leak on our bathtub, the toilet was leaking too and the bathtub and sink were locked. The master toilet was loose and I saw a leakage. The kitchen faucet was leaking as well and then, our main shut-off valve doesn't shut off all the way. I submitted the claim for repair online. Their website seemed straightforward. However, when it says leaks, there's no quantity adjustment. It just says leaks. I can specify how many leaks or how many stoppages were there. But for the leaks itself, I couldn't adjust the quantity. Nonetheless, I got a response through the phone within 24 hours of submitting the claim and in that same time period, I had the contractors come out and look at it. They were thorough, courteous and professional. They understand the frustration that we're going through.

So far, we haven't had it done yet. We're waiting for it to get approved. I got authorization last week, saying, "Hey, this has been approved." But AHS hasn't called 24 Hour Plumbing to say that it got approved. I got a call this morning for part of it but they still haven't received approval for the other work to get done. At this point, I had an electrical done and I had it fixed right away. But the plumbing has been open since August.

American Home Shield is worth it although they can't replace anything that's not on your contract so be ready for some frustration. Also, they have long hold time. So, if you are trying to get in, it would take up to 40 minutes. That was why I went through the website to file the first few claims because it's easier to do it that way. But to get stuff resolved like my plumbing that has been open for two months, I'd have to call four to five times just to see what's going on. I had multiple reps. One said he'll call me back but I never got a call back. And then, finally, the one gal said she'd call me back and that I should not worry about it. Her supervisor called me back and that was when the ball started rolling. I'm very patient about it because I have no reason to get upset but it can get frustrating at times.

Our oven, a combination microwave and convection model by Bosch, stopped working in June. There were two problems that developed in rapid succession: The microwave doesn't heat and the control panel on the convection oven has shorted out and needs to be replaced. At first everything seemed to be on track, a technician came, evaluated the problem, ordered spare parts and then returned to fix the oven. However, when the spare part for the microwave didn't work, the technician said he didn't think that it could be repaired, and as a result the entire unit would have to be replaced.

Before moving forward, AHS required a second opinion. First one technician came out, only to say that his company didn't service Bosch equipment, and then a second came out and said the same thing. Each time I needed to follow up with AHS to make sure they received the reports from the technician that would enable them to move forward. We recently had a fourth technician come out, after having confirmed in advance that indeed his company services Bosch equipment. I have just been told now by AHS that the report from this last technician is that because the unit is a combination unit, they cannot service it.

Following up with AHS to make sure that they move to the next step has taken 1-2 weeks each time the baton was passed to a new technician. It has now been three months since the oven broke down, and while we did have a vacation away from home for two weeks, we've been living without microwave or oven all summer. AHS's bureaucratic processes and lack of follow-up to move things forward has contributed to the delay, and it's clear that their stable of technicians doesn't include the necessary coverage. If I don't see proactive action on AHS's part in the next week to resolve the issue, I'm going to cancel my plan and find something else. From what I have seen so far, AHS's service is not worth the cost of the monthly premium.
