The AC quit working and I submitted the claim to AHS online. However, I have two AC units and I didn't get to choose how many needed to be repaired. The person that fixed the AC was great and completely understood. He checked my unit that day and I asked if he could check both ACs that day and try to send in paperwork. He tried to send the stuff in several times. Every time I called, he would say, he had sent it in and that he would send it in again. However, AHS said I had to submit another request.
It took two more months for them to come back out and get my second unit taken care of. I had to call and say that nobody was looking at the second unit. They said I should not have submitted it online. I was supposed to have called and told them about it which I didn't know. Moreover, I was charged for the service fee for both claims. I ended up paying because it was hot and I needed my air conditioner fixed. I shouldn’t have to pay again. They need to fix their website. For instance, one of the claims I’ve had was for a toilet. When I clicked on the toilet, it asked how many toilets I needed to be repaired. Why can’t there be the same option for the air conditioner? Other than that, though, I’ve been pleased with AHS and I would recommend them.

We couldn't get our jacuzzi to work and we filed a claim over the phone. Two gentlemen came out, checked everything out and they were very pleasant. The problem was an operator error and I never had a jacuzzi before, so I learned a lesson. We've told others to check into Home Shield and see if it works for them, but it is a bit pricey, so a lot of people we've talked to don't think it's worth it. However, we've had very good luck with AHS.

Months ago, my refrigerator needed to be repaired and it was not a very good experience. The initial process was fine though. I called AHS, spoke to someone and put in a request. It was easy. Then the technician came out. He ordered a part, tried to fix it and it didn’t work. He came out again, ordered parts and didn’t fix it. Then he came out again and ordered the parts.
It took about four weeks to get the refrigerator repaired. And during that time, I reached out to AHS requesting for some compensation for my food loss. I was told that my policy didn’t cover food loss, but someone offered to give me $100 for reimbursement. When I called back, I didn’t speak to the person that offered that and I was denied the reimbursement. Under those circumstances, I should have been offered some kind of reimbursement. When I contacted AHS to renew my policy, I informed them of that but I never got a reimbursement. It’s worth getting such policy through AHS but be aware that if your policy doesn’t cover food reimbursement, then you would want to plan for that.

Our air conditioner wasn’t cooling and it wasn’t holding temperature when it did. It had been checked out prior to our purchase of the home, and I asked them to check it out with two different sources, which they did. American Home Shield had already provided work on the units under the former owner so we wanted to double-check ‘cause the last thing we wanted to do was have the months of June, July, and August without air conditioning.
We had a check and moved in, then a week after we moved in, it wasn’t holding temperature. We called AHS the first time and a great rep from Cabot Mechanical LLC came out. He identified the problem right away and replaced the relay. It was an issue where it was not kicking in the compressor so he replaced that relay. He also charged it with some freon and it has worked adequately but not to the level that it should have.
When our second floor unit was experiencing the same issues, it was serviced as well. It was checked for some Freon and did some cleaning on it because both units had been well-taken care of over the course of their lives. Right now, both units are functioning. They take the temperature down and hold it, so they did a good job. When I had a microwave and oven issue as well after we moved in and the microwave control panel was not functioning properly, a guy named Ben came out and knew exactly what it was, ordered the part, got it in, came and fixed it. He was great.

American Home Shield sent a contractor out within a day after I called them to submit a claim for my plumbing. However, the problem wasn't the plumbing. It was the septic tank. The guy who came was friendly but the septic tank isn't covered so I had it fixed on my own.

American Home Shield has sent someone out for us for several instances. One was the refrigerator, another one was a leaking bathtub, and I think the third one was regarding a dryer. It's frustrating when I call 'cause they direct me to a website, which is a downside because I don't have internet. Also, I'm put on hold when I call and it takes me about 45 minutes before I get to a person. The reps I get are not so warm, but they're okay. It could have been better if they could at least fake excellent customer service. Still, they get the job done. On the other hand, the contractors who come know what they're doing and so far, the repairs have been good. Overall, I'm happy to know that I'm covered if something breaks. American Home Shield is a good back-up.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for years because I have old appliances. It's easy to file claims on the phone and I love it. The only problem is that I wait a long time on the phone to reach someone but other than that, once I put the claim in, the appliance person is very good about calling right away and setting an appointment. I also like the way everybody connected with American Home Shield calls first before they arrive. It has worked really well for me for years.
About four years ago, AHS replaced a washer and then about three months after that, the dryer went out. They had come many times on that washer and about twice on the dryer. At that time when they could still find the part for the washer, the contractor didn't seem to be well and was irritable with me. But, it got done and he didn't do anything wrong, so I didn’t report it. And that has never happened since then or before. Then, when the units got so old and AHS couldn’t locate the parts anymore, AHS replaced both of them.
Recently, I had an old oven that would not work and I couldn't find the part. AHS sent a contractor a day after Labor Day, which was Tuesday. The contractor sent me a follow-up text saying that American Home Shield said they couldn't find the part for him and that they needed to replace my oven. And if I don’t receive a call by Monday, he said to call and start the process myself. I’m waiting on a call back from them now. But they have hundreds of people calling, so it doesn’t upset me. Also, I know what number to call for the appliance replacement department but I decided to just leave my name and number and let them call me back. I’m a widow and every time an appliance dies, I’m just without, so I really appreciate the American Home Shield's service. I don’t know what I would have been without them.

Hold time to call for service is horrendous EVERY SINGLE TIME. Tried to request service online, lo and behold, they have my account past due for the premium that they automatically debit monthly with no issues and they actually charged my card the day I needed service, on the due date of my premium. Sent a private message via Twitter, "We are not here right now, please call". Decided to cancel my contract and they are charging me $7 for administration fee!

This company does absolutely nothing but charge you $75 for people to come to your house to tell you how many hundreds or thousands of dollars you need to spend to get the "warranty." I already had a roof inspection and the only issues were to caulk a couple of nail heads. AHS came out and said I need to spend $1500. Hot water heater broke 2 weeks ago and they want $750 for additional modifications to swap out my hot water heater that is FULLY COVERED. I could not afford and requested a cash-in-lieu. It's been a week with no hot water and they still haven’t contacted me. Every time I call it's 50 minutes+ of wait time. I'm waiting to find out how much they will give me towards a new hot water heater so I can have someone reasonable install it. I've never been so furious with a company in my life.

We have been without AC for a month and no one seems to care. Long story short, after 2 visits from the repair team it was noted we needed a new compressor, that was 2 weeks ago... AHS says the compressor is in a warehouse and in the computer indicating it is in the warehouse. The repair people have been to the warehouse twice and no one can find it.
This has been going on for a week. I am now holding on the phone, spoke to Nancy, she put me on hold after I held for 20 min., after waiting on hold the phone auto-disconnected after 1 hour and 5 minutes. (Pretty sure the rep dissed me) I am now holding again. It has been 1 month in North Carolina with no AC. (And to add insult to injury our other unit went out and now I have to put in another service request) I couldn't possibly recommend AHS. What a waste of my time, and energy, I will be contacting the BBB and whoever else will listen since apparently AHS can't be bothered.

I have a AC unit broken for the last 5 months. AHS sent 6 or 7 contractors and they fix the AC which runs for a few days then blow the hot air. AHS do not cover the coolant or any expensive parts. I spent $1500 in last month and still AC is not fixed. When one contractor could not fix it (because it is not fixable), they send another contractor and they fix it and spent 1000s of dollars for few days again the the same story. They need to replace the AC unit but they never do that. I heard the same story from my friend too. Finally my friend replaced the AC from her pocket. So DON'T trust AHS to fix your AC's expensive parts. They do not cover the cost. They say they will cover only up to $590. Customer has to pay the rest. It could be thousands... GO FOR ANOTHER company.

I called AHS to have my AC services as it wasn't cooling. The AC company responded quickly and accurately diagnosed the problem was a faulty TXV valve which causes the coils to freeze up. To fix the problem the AC company wanted to charge me for 5 pounds of Freon at a cost of $375. Freon isn't a covered service. The problem is the AC didn't need any Freon and you don't have to remove the Freon to replace the valve. It can be pumped down to the compressor why the valve is replaced. AHS wouldn't send another vendor to do the job correctly. They offered me a buyout a fraction of the cost of the service. The buyout amount didn't even cover the cost of the part.

I have tried for over 2 weeks to schedule service for appliances in need of repair. I have paid my policy monthly. Never missed or late on a payment and when I go to use the service I have paid for it is almost impossible to get help. I have tried 3 times to set up service for my home and they keep routing me to the same service provider. That service provider has never once shown up or called to set the appointment. I reach out to American Home Shield and after being on hold for 48 minutes they tell me they have no one to service my location and a dispatcher will call me the next day. They never do. Mind you I live 20 minutes outside of Washington D.C so there are plenty of service providers around. Still broke and disappointed in the customer service. Do not use them for your home warranty. When they gave their report, I got an email saying that there were so much to be fixed and they offered to buy me a new one. I haven't received my new washer yet because I was going on vacation the day they showed me what they would get for me and I got sick when I came back. They offered me a GE washer and I'd really like to get a Whirlpool. So, I sent an email today asking if they would allow me to buy a Whirlpool and I am waiting for a response to that. AHS cashed out my Dryer and Refrigerator and refunded me all of the service fees that had paid out since June.
Original Review: Sept. 14, 2018
I haven't had a very good summer with my appliances. The dryer broke first, then the air conditioner and now, my refrigerator. The claims process with American Home Shield is easy when you go on the automated system or online. I went on the automated system on the phone to submit the claim for my air conditioner. The compressor went out on Thursday and the air conditioner wasn't repaired until Tuesday. The contractor's service was perfect. But I did all the work for American Home Shield. The compressor was approved but it was gonna take 48 hours for their parts department to get to the contractor to tell them that they could go ahead and pick it up. But staying on the phone and yelling at everybody, I got that done within two hours. I was the one who got on the phone and hustled it.
I had to stay on the phone with American Home Shield an hour and a half at a time. And that was just to get a person on the phone. The contractor doesn't have time for that. They can't have the parts department put on hold for an hour and a half. Finally, I got through to somebody else in a different department and he was the most helpful. But I still had to email the CEO to get an executive customer service person involved. He was the one who put my repair on the top of the list. If I hadn't done all that, it would have been at least three more days because the parts department would tell you that they were behind.
But the executive customer service people are worthless too right now. My dryer has been broken since August 1st and I've been leaving the executive customer service person Annette voicemails but she has never called me back. She does not reply to my emails either. So I had to get somebody else on the phone. Barbie answered her line today and she actually called me back with an answer about the part being backordered again until the 28th of September. They had to order the part directly from the manufacturer and it was supposed to be in today. Now, American Home Shield will give me a cash-out option. But I want a replacement option. But because the dryer is repairable, they won't give me the replacement option. The only way I'll get my cash-out option is if I go buy a new dryer. They're gonna give me $628 but to replace the dryer I have is $1200.
Annette is the person who should be handling this though. Now I'm mad and she's not doing it either. What do I do? I've got nowhere to go. My dryer is still broken and they don't care. They just take the option that it's backordered and they don't move forward. I don't get why they haven't done more for me. I've been paying American Home Shield for 15 years. They should do more work for me than that.
Then when I got home yesterday, my refrigerator broke. It's completely out and I've lost everything in it. Now I'm thinking, "Am I gonna have to wait for a month for a refrigerator?" I'm so dissatisfied that when I get it all repaired, I'm cancelling the warranty. But I don't really want to cancel because I've had such good luck with American Home Shield for 15 years straight, until this year. It's been a total spiral down. I even referred a lot of people to American Home Shield. My niece also had such a hard time in Carolina this summer that they cancelled. I thought maybe it was just because they didn't have a lot of options with contractors but now I understand why she was having problems. I believe in a home warranty 100%. American Home Shield had always stood behind me but not anymore.
I don't know if they've downsized and they don't have enough employees. If I call right now, I would have to sit on hold just to get a person on the phone. I don't care if it's their peak season. They should hire more people during that time. I should not sit on hold for an hour and a half just so I can talk to a person. It's the same even for other departments. A guy called me back and said that my complaint was valid. He sat on the phone for the same amount of time and he works there.
Updated on 10/18/2018: Since then we decided to replace all of our appliances, so I emailed AHS to cancel my policy. FYI they can only cancel on effective the day you call or email and they will not refund your prorated premium you have already paid for the current month. AHS does not pro-rate months for refunds on premiums and you were paying monthly. AHS also does not cancel contracts for a future date.
Good morning Deanna,

There was an issue with my air conditioner and I called American Home Shield to file a claim for it. Within that day, I got a call from the technician and initially, he said he was really tied up but that he’d try to get here. He did and he was on time. He looked at the AC, then he came back the next day. He came earlier than he said he was going to, looked to see what the problem was and he told me that he had to finish another job. Then he came back. I had two air conditioner heat pumps in my home and he added more Freon to both of those. There was a broken wire in the AC too and he repaired that wire and checked the pressure. Since he added the Freon, the AC has been great.
The contractor billed me after the service was done though. Normally, I’d never had to pay anything extra. The $75 fee was the only amount I paid but this time, I had to pay $90 extra for the Freon. Also, the technician said he was gonna come back as he had some other cap he had to get but he has never done that. I’ve always had a good experience with this contractor though. Years ago, I was dissatisfied with AHS because I had not known that the refrigerators were not covered and I had severe problems with the refrigerator. So I’m gonna get another one and perhaps that will take care of the issue. But American Home Shield seems to be right there and able to answer questions.

American Home Shield was the best one I found and they have always been good to me. They take care of everything, they don’t lie, they don’t wait and then come out and tell you that they’ll only give you such money, and you can go take care of it yourself, and you end up spending all of the money for the part. I have used someone else before I got AHS and that one never paid for anything. I ended up paying for them to come out and then they gave me a little bit of money on. They didn't even pay half. I wouldn't trade AHS.
When I had a water leak with the refrigerator, I submitted a claim online and AHS contacted me right away. Although it was about a week before Sears could get out here, the reps at AHS were nice and pleasant. Also, the contractor was super nice. I asked the tech a couple of questions that was something different than what he came out for, but he didn't mind answering it and he was going all the way to show me. My washing machine was leaking and I let it go off for about two months. It kept on leaking and it was getting worse. I tried to call AHS once before and it took me a while to get through on the phone, so I went and made the claim on the websiteir, which was convenient and easy. The contractor made an appointment and they came out in three days. They were professional and the gentleman told us what looked to be the issue and ordered some parts. He came a couple of days later with some new parts and he said we'll try something different. He ordered some new parts, came out, and that wasn’t it too.
On the third try, he said they made a determination that they were going replace my washing machine. We were happy and we like the replacement. Having a warranty is very valuable. It gives me that sense of knowing I have an extra backup with the home insurance if something goes wrong and I know I can count on American Home Shield to come out and attempt to fix my issue.

My refrigerator was not working. I got on the phone and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. The first contractor that showed up stated nothing was wrong with the refrigerator and they just needed to refill the Freon. However, I was very disappointed with them because they didn’t diagnose the problem correctly. I ended up having another company come in and they stated that the compressor had stopped working. The tech then took care of calling AHS and they told him that some of the parts were under warranty. The refrigerator was only three years old. So, the tech called LG and LG stated the part was under warranty but has to be reordered. Also, LG needed an approval letter from a different department and that dragged on for two weeks. I called back, ended up waiting and waiting. It was a very frustrating experience.
Then finally, something had happened with the approval letter. The part was then ordered and it arrived as scheduled. The second company was really good at following up with us but because I was so upset about the experience, their tech was the one taking a lot of my complaints and I was not happy every time that I have to talk to him. But the guy showed up and fixed my refrigerator, and it's been working fine since then. So I'm very happy. What happened was not a good experience but American Home Shield has been good. I haven't had any issues whenever I placed the call to them and things have been very convenient for me as a customer. They've always been very friendly people and I'm happy with them. We had the upstairs shower that uses the same hot water heater as the actual shower. The water with the upstairs shower was fine as far as hot and cold. We could feel the hot water coming out of the hot water heater. But when it comes to the actual shower, we had no hot water at all. It's a Kohler mixing valve there that's a one-lever deal that we would pull up and as we pull it up, it would go from cold to hot. But it didn't make any difference where we put it. It was cold water. I called American Home Shield and the rep told me when they thought Patriot Plumbing, the contractor, would be here and gave me their number. I called Patriot and the lady that answered the phone was very good.
I told her what my situation was and she had somebody here the following day. The guy from Patriot came over here and he examined it. He did everything he could and checked the heat and where it went and where there was no hot water. He determined that the controller of this Kohler water meter was malfunctioning. He has a part on order for that and when he gets it, he's supposed to bring it over here and put it in. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it worked.
But we have an issue that still isn't resolved. I had an oven door that was catching. When we closed the door, it wouldn't go up and and it was jamming on something in the hinge part. The guy came out here and he fixed it. He had ordered parts for the door and he put a new frame in there. But then when he went to close the door, the door wouldn't close all the way. So then, he sort of jammed it and hit it really hard. He got it to work for two weeks and then the thing did what it would normally do. It creeps back away from giving a good seal to the oven. So, we got heat escaping when we bake or something out of the oven and if my wife has to bake anything, she just uses the oven down below.
Having the warranty is very helpful but the big problem I have with AHS is with the replacement. When I built this house, I put quality products in here and I expected to get something in that same line but AHS's replacement parts or what they try to put were something quite a bit lower. Then, they wanted me to try to pay the difference and I got into some debates. We worked through that but it took a bit of negotiating. They would tell me it was hard to get and that it cost so much more. They gave me fits over the stainless steel I wanted on my microwave and I said I didn't want an old plastic black thing over the top. They hemmed and hawed and finally, they came along to it.
The other thing that bothers me is when I picked my selection of options I would like to include on the insurance. Like a lot of people, I have the automatic garage doors but when I really got into the fine print, they're opting out of the unit itself as far as the tracks or the chain drive. It doesn't make much difference to the homeowner what breaks. If it's part of the garage door and the door won't go up and down, it's part of the garage door. However, American Home Shield has improved for my relationship and they do incredible job. In the last year, the service has been much better.
I live in Williamsburg which is halfway between Norfolk and Virginia and the way their computer is setup to select service people, most of the service people are down towards Norfolk. The problem is that there's a big body of water that separates Norfolk and Chesapeake and most of these guys had to drive about anywhere from 50 to 75 miles to get here, one way. But there are other towns that are closer and at times, once AHS has given me somebody that's really good in that particular skill, then I would remember them and ask AHS to please assign that person to me. They're good about that and they have worked with me. If you know the repair person in terms of previous work and ask for them, they would get it for you.

I have American Home Shield coverage on my home and on my rental in California. It's been warm during that time and everything was fine. One day, my daughter who lives in that rental unit noticed that the the air condition unit wasn’t getting cold. She called AHS and they sent a repairman in there within a day. He went up on the roof where the condensing unit is, looked at it and decided that the motor wasn’t coming on. He said that he was gonna go back a couple of days to get the parts but he came back the next day and got it done. I'd recommend AHS. I have recommended it to somebody already.

We had issue with our dryer. I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone and their reps were very good to deal with. Then the contractor who came out was excellent. The technician they sent out was very knowledgeable, got the help, found the problem, and was able to do a good job. He also did it in a very timely fashion. They responded really timely too because at the time, my wife already started washing her clothes and when she finished washing, she put them in the dryer and it wouldn’t work. So they kind of got us in really quickly, even the next day. Since the repair, the dryer has been working every day.
The warranty costs money, but at the same time, it is worth it for the security and the confidence it gives. It still would have been expensive if we had to buy the whole dryer, which we didn’t have to, thank goodness. So having AHS is like having an insurance. You pay all these fees and sometimes, you don’t use it but sometimes, you need to. Also, we’re in the process of possibly selling my house that we’re living in here in Georgia and we're moving to a house over in Alabama. I’d certainly like to have my American Home Shield over there as well.

J&C Plumbing came for a leak in my kitchen. I called American Home Shield and the claims representative was professional, courteous, and kind. My questions were answered and everything was resolved. I got the appointment where they took my information for me to get the appointment very quickly. The contractor came out in a couple of days and it was the same gentleman that I had the previous time. He arrived on time and he was fine. He did the job and did everything in a timely manner. He was professional, neat, and clean. Right now, everything seems to be fine. I find it assuring to have a warranty on my property and it's one less thing I have to worry about. I told them I was not going to accept their bid then I dealt with American Home Shield and their representatives were not helpful at all. I called and told them I'd get it repaired myself and they could give me whatever they were supposed to. And they said they'd give me $300. I went ahead and had it repaired myself. I had to shell out money out of pocket. AHS didn’t give me any money and nobody from them called me or settled my claim. As far as I'm concerned, it is still open and they need to give me some of the money that I spent. AHS hasn't been very fair to me and I'm very unhappy with them.

I had a water leak and I thought my hot water stopped working, too. He showed me that somebody had turned off the valve. Also, one of the faucets in the bathroom and the sink faucet were both dripping, and he fixed those in no time. Everything has been perfect since the repair and I've told friends that AHS is brilliant.

If American Home Shield could become better in a certain area, that would be in getting all the people who answer telephones on the same page. When I called up American Home Shield about some water accumulation at the bottom of our inside AC unit, there were a couple of different stories. We had just bought the house and the prior owner had said that he got a warranty company for us. I asked him for the information and he gave me a name and a telephone number. But at first, he couldn't find the paperwork and American Home Shield said there was no paperwork and that the prior owner had never sent the money or paid for the warranty. Once they told me that, they said it would take three days to have someone come. I called up another company in my area to have them look at the AC. They came, looked at it and told me they couldn't do anything because the lines were frozen and I had to shut it off for a while. That cost me $200.
But after AHS had said we didn't have the AC covered, they then said that we did have it covered. That was when I called up American Home Shield again and I got someone else on the telephone. They told me that the warranty had been paid for and transferred. That was when I asked them to get involved and they made the appointment sooner than I expected them to. They located a company in our area and in two days, they had someone here. The technician was great too. He was professional and he kept me informed on what was going on. I also had a little head start because the unit had been shut off. So when he came, he was able to look at the unit without ice being on anything and he found out that it was a nominal problem. There was a lack of Freon and within 15 minutes, the problem was solved. The unit was on and giving cold air. He asked me to sign paperwork and there was no money. Everything since then has been great.

American Home Shield is doing what I need them to do. I submit claims with them over the phone and I’ve done online as well, and both are really easy to do. Then I have my co-payment taken out and they come back with a text or an email letting me know who’s gonna be the local contractor doing the repair and that they will be in contact with me within 48 hours, which the contractors always do. The appointments are kept as promised, and the guys are really nice. They always let you know when they're coming and when they're en route, so it works out well. AHS got some good contractors working with them.
I noticed a leak in my master bedroom. My water heater and air conditioning units are upstairs in the attic. And one of my drains had plugged up and there was water over the pan. The contractor that AHS sent out unplugged the drain and fixed it. My wife said he was in and out of here real quick. Since the repair, everything is working out fine. I live in a really nice home and it’s always nice to have insurance when something goes bad. That kind of stuff gets expensive, so the monthly payments don’t bother me. And I would recommend having a home insurance to anyone that has a home with a big mortgage tied to it.

I have been with a AHS since 2000 and have some good experiences to boast about. My most recent experience, however, was not. My range could not be repaired due to the inability to get parts. AHS offered a replacement range that was bigger than my space. They are now charging me $175.00 restocking fee because I sent the range back. Then they offered one that was smaller than my space. Neither range offered would fit without modifications to my home.
At one point, they offered $1400 plus cash in lieu but reduced it to half because the range they were able to get cost $700 plus, but did not fit in my space. After days of frustration and waiting to hear from a supervisor, I purchased a range for $1400 plus am having to pay for modifications to my home. This left me with a sour taste because the representatives told me that my contract fine print reads that AHS doesn’t replace based on dimensions but replaces based on features. I told both reps that said this to me that this should be explored in instances such as mine, and an exception should be considered.
They both said the rules were not going to change because it was company mandated. I tried to explain that my situation was unique and requested to speak to a supervisor. One rep told the supervisor could do nothing and it took one and a half weeks for the supervisor to return my call. My question is what good are features in an appliance that I can’t use because of the size? AHS should explore unusual situations and work with customers to get them help rather than blowing them off to rules that could easily be adjusted.
Good morning Christa,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience to have your built in range repaired/replaced. I would be glad to speak with you regarding the CIL accepted.

After a lengthy conversation and very little work performed he said I needed a new unit. FRIDAY the company hired by AHS said he would take 3 weeks and wasn't interested. If I needed it sooner (keep in mind that we just lost a dog and it's 90-100 degrees in Alabama in the summer).
Weekend. Nothing. FOLLOWING MONDAY I requested to use my own vendor. AFTER 4 HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH AHS. TUESDAY my vendor came out and made the same discoveries the first guy made... same diagnosis... new unit was needed. WEDNESDAY my vendor wanted to install but couldn't because AHS wouldn't give approval. THURSDAY After 4 pm AHS requested a "2nd opinion" like they didn't believe my vendor. I have not had a good experience with this warranty. It was provided to me by the sellers of my home so I thought that it was a good deal. The last time I tried to use the warranty for a leak (which took almost 2 weeks to resolve), the final contractor stated that the damage was not normal wear and tear. So after taking my deductible, the repair was not made. I tried to explain to the rep that no one had been in the attic so I don't know how this could have happened but they refused to complete the order BUT offered to have an appeal done only if I agreed to pay a second deductible if the 2nd opinion confirmed the first. I recently submitted a claim for another leak from my AC. The AC guy told me that some pipe was missing and that I would have to call a plumber. The AC company then closed the claim. So I've paid another deductible only to have to hire my own plumber to resolve the issue. I will not be renewing this policy.

Our well pump went out on a Saturday, so we had no water. After spending 45 minutes on hold to speak someone, they had to call us back in 4 hours to tell us they couldn't find a well contractor within their listing so we had to find someone. When we finally found someone to come out, they tried calling for authorization but spent 30 minutes on hold before they finally gave up and we went ahead and paid the $187 bill (for a 10 minute job)!
When I tried calling on Monday, they said the well company had to call for authorization! What was worse was they had already taken the $100 service fee out of my checking account! I believe they make it so difficult for companies to call for authorization so no one will do it!! Who can wait around for 30 minutes when the job literally took 10 minutes! And I had to get it fixed since it was our water! The people I spoke with on the phone were not helpful or sympathetic at all! I'll be looking for a new home warranty company now.

After 8 years of being a loyal customer, I requested to cancel my warranty with AHS today. I'm covered through January, but I cancelled today because I simply cannot deal with the lack of service anymore. Disappointed is the only way I can describe my experience. I work in customer service and deal with difficult situations every day. This company is utterly out of touch with reality and their customers.
I understand the game and I understand a company has to remain profitable. I've more than paid for the cost of the $5,500 new AC unit I just paid for out of my pocket in my annual fees. Add in the countless service fees and additional items that mysteriously aren't covered under my plan over the years and I've probably bought 2 new units at this point. Oh and I can't forget to mention the countless times I've called a local company directly and avoided using my warranty because I simply can't wait 6 days for a minor repair on an AC unit.
Who knows why I kept the warranty so long... mainly because I thought that someday all of my "insurance" payments would lead to a unit replacement. Instead the only option ever presented is to put a band aid on a giant surgical wound. Every single company contracted to my home by AHS has told me directly - "AHS will never replace this unit. It needs to be replaced, but if I recommend that, they'll stop sending us business." I even recorded a guy once simply to prove to my wife that we were being scammed. Shame on me for being so naive.
Fast forward to recently. Contractor comes out for a repair 5 days after my request... Shows up 3 minutes late of their 5 hour window... Leaves my place a mess but "fixes" the issue. 4 days later, the unit stops working again. Regardless of my request to send a different company because of the horrendous experience previously, I'm told that I have to use them again to avoid paying another service fee. Diagnosis: a new compressor. Would have been the 3rd compressor the unit has had. THat's the equivalent of putting a new motor in a junkyard '82 Buick LeSabre.
I explain to a minimum of 5 AHS employees (HOURS on hold, being transferred, lost connections, nobody who can make a decision) that I want to take advantage of the cash out option because we're wasting my money and theirs! I was happy to hear that this was an option and told it would take another 3-5 days to process the claim. Mind you, I was without AC in Florida, in August for 2 weeks since my original claim at this time with my family living in a hotel at my expense. I was told my claim would be "expedited." I paid for an actually reputable company to come and replace my entire unit ($5,500.00) out of my pocket and assumed that the good news would be that I would receive around $1,000.00 or so for the labor and cost of the compressor (used bandaid) AHS was going to have installed.
Fast forward another week or more and 3 more hour long follow up phone calls because nothing is happening and the original AC company is calling me saying they're ready to install my compressor! AND asking for $600.00 for freon!!!??? So I would assume at least the part being installed has to cost more than the freon they're asking me to pay for, right??? I explained to 3 different people that I had already requested a cash out (which apparently the process hadn't even begun). I reached such a point of heightened frustration that I finally got a helpful woman on the phone today and she handled the situation in less than 10 minutes. And then offered me an incredibly insulting amount of money for my compressor cash out. $392.00.
$392.00 for a month of terrible customer service from their contracted AC company, countless AHS employees, 10 days in a hotel @$800.00, priceless inconvenience, a new $5k AC unit. What a slap in the face. I called 3 AC companies today and asked them to quote a compressor installation for the exact specs of my old unit. Not one of them was under $1,200.00.
I understand that a large company like AHS has contracts and bulk deals etc, but $392.00 for what I went through is a joke. I honestly feel like I'm on a prank show. Maybe I wasn't pushy enough? Maybe I didn't yell and scream at enough people... I've heard if you do that, things will start happening. I shouldn't have to yell at someone to get fair treatment. My only hope is that someone will read this review and stay as far away as possible. Build a relationship with a local handyman and a reputable AC/appliance company. You will save hours of heartache and 1000's of dollars. Trust me.

What a scam company. My wife and I have been contract holders for years on several properties we own. However, we finally needed them on one of our properties and they are trying to deny our claim for an air conditioning repair. We are now being told we do not have ac coverage but yet a service tech was sent out over a week and claim was approved. The interesting part is we have a copy of our contract that clearly showed we have ac coverage. Someone in their company, probably the rude and ignorant woman we have dealt falsified documents and changed their contract. Again, we have the original contract. This is erroneous fraud. Apparently we are going to need to proceed with legal matters and be refunded for every payment ever made to AHS. Did I mention we own three different service based companies and I have never experienced poorer customer service.
Yes AHS this is why two of our companies have declined to be a service provider for you. We would never have our companies names or reputations tied to a hack (so called) service provider such as you. You are simply paper contractors and very lousy ones. We have asked multiple times to speak to a manager but yet we are told there is not one. One will call us in 48 hours but that does not happen. We are told there is no phone or email for a complaint department or management department. Wow, how do you possibly have a business still. I expect to hear back from your management team on how you falsified contracts and how you will be resolving it immediately.
For those consumers reading this save your money. Find good local contractors directly in your town. Check their references and that they are licensed and insured. The money you save not paying AHS will more than pay for the better service. We could have purchased several brand new ac units for the money we have given to this fraud company. If you still wish to have a home warranty there appears to be several others out there.
Good afternoon Chad,

My insurance wouldn't cover the replacement of the water heater so I ended up calling AHS for the water heater. They sent out a plumber and it took him 5 minutes to diagnose that our unit is not repairable, warranty company has to send us a replacement. He told me that it cannot be done in the same day, which worked out for me since I had mold remediation going on to repair the water damage cause by the water heater issue. I called the warranty company the next day to see when we can have a new water heater and they deferred us to talk to the plumbing company that they sent out. I called the plumbing company and they told me that it will cost me $550 out of pocket to get a new water heater because it will require re-modification.
This is outrageous because what I am asking is putting back a new unit in the same location that broken water heater was sitting on. I called the warranty company to find out what's going on and they keep deferring us to talk to the plumbing company. I called plumbing company again and plumbing company said they would talk to warranty company and get back to me on it, but I was not able to hear from neither of them. I am going back and forth between warranty company and the plumbing company, wasting my time on being hold for hours, none of them willing to fix my problem.
I paid my insurance fee, I paid my deductible (fixed fee per incident) and I am very disappointed by how they handle this. I will probably call them again tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do for me, they are costing me $$ since I had to evacuate my tenant because there is no water, and I have to face rent loss. We had an AC issue and when it was getting hot inside, a contractor came out and they determined it was the fan booster. They replaced the booster and some other wiring. A few days later, it happened again.
My wife did a follow up online and the contractor replied. The same contractor came out and they determined it was the compressor. So, we got the compressor replaced and some other work was done as well. It took two and a half weeks from when we submitted the claim to where everything was fixed because the contractor had to order the compressor. The AC is working great now. I'm glad we have American Home Shield and I'd definitely recommend them.

My dryer was running but not heating. I put in my claim for it online then I got an email from American Home Shield within an hour. The next day, Joplin Repair called me and scheduled an appointment for the repair. The contractor who came was fine and he knew what he was doing. He got right on it and had it taken care of. Since the repair, we haven’t had any problem with the dryer and it’s been good.

My air conditioner was not cooling. When I called AHS to submit a claim, it was quick and easy and the claims rep I worked with was very good. While the air conditioner works well now, the time window when the contractor said they would arrive was not well communicated. The contractor got the ticket that Monday but they didn't contact me. So on Tuesday when I talked to AHS, they said the tech will let me know. Eventually, the rep at AHS said she would call the tech, only to say that the contractor isn't answering her. At some point, the contractor called and said he will be here by 4 pm. Nevertheless, I was satisfied because the tech sent out by AHS was able to fix my air conditioner.

It takes a long time going through American Home Shield to get things taken care of. But when the microwave wasn't working, the contractor came right out and they took care of it in a hurry. The contractor ordered the stove and microwave. But when they put the microwave in, it didn't fit. It was too big for the hole in the wall, so they had it sitting on my floor of my kitchen for about three weeks. My husband cut the hole bigger and then the contractor came back to put it in. He then bought some sealers, and put around it to finish it off. It looks really nice.

I put in a work order request to American Home Shield for a pool plumbing repair and scheduled that with Tampa Bay Plumbing. The contractor came out and he looked at the issue. I explained to him that I have a pop-up cleaning system for my pool’s self-cleaning system. It was a little pop-up head and under the contract, I saw that those pop-up heads are not covered but the actuator is. When he came out, I told him that I have a lot of problems with the actuator and he can see that the pop-ups are stuck in position and it was reoccurring. He agreed with me and called his boss. he had a conversation on the phone with me standing there. He said that it was an old A&A actuator and it needs to be replaced.
Then, I get a follow-up from American Home Shield that it was declined. I talked to the representative from AHS and asked them why it was declined. She looked at the record and said that the technician that came out sent the report in and indicated that it was a problem with the pop-up head. I told them that the pop-ups are fine and it was the actuator that was the problem so he didn’t enter it correctly. I asked the rep how to proceed and she said that I could resubmit another work order then they'll have another contractor come out. If the diagnosis was as I claim, then they'll go ahead and do the repair and I won’t get charged. I said that I got the system and that’s what I have to live with.
The problem was, we were leaving in 24 hours on a 10-day vacation. I knew how to get it working again ‘cause I’ve done it several times, so I was between a rock and a hard place. I went ahead, cracked it open, did the wall adjustment for the valves and got it working. When we got charged, I called Capital One and said that I wanna dispute the charge. Capital One went ahead, took the information then removed the charge from our account so when I got back, I got an email that the account had been declared delinquent.
I followed up with a phone call today to customer service and one of the associates took the call. She was very nice and explained the situation. I told her that I don’t know how to resolve it because those pop-ups are still working, and the actuator will work for a while, and I can’t have somebody come out to look at something that ain't broke. It’s where it sits and it was very frustrating. At this point, American Home Shield falls back on its waiver of liability for contractor's failure to perform, and it’s in the contract. We had another issue with another contractor and this is a similar waiver situation with AHS. This contractor did a dishwasher repair and it resulted in a $40,000 insurance claim for water damage to our kitchen.

So he went outside and made a phone call, came back in, and told me that AHS would cover the repair it so he fixed it for me. Although everything is working, my deductible was 100 bucks and I don't think that it cost that much for the guy to come out and fix the screw. I submit my claims with American Home Shield through their website and it was difficult. You could pick and sign up for different things but the problem was they would charge you for each time, even when you try to make them all at one time. So that once I had to make them, I had to call 1-800 just to tell them, I'm trying to make these claims while they charge me $100 for each one. It's like a default mechanism, it won't let you do it. But their contractor from Lucas Appliance was absolutely wonderful. He called every time before he came. He explained everything to me. He troubleshoots with me.
I was nosy trying to look inside what he was doing and he welcomed my curiosity and showed me why it wasn't working, what he was gonna replace and he actually saw something else that was broken on the washing machine. He said, "Okay, we need to replace this. This is open, and its work could be more efficient." However, I have to give him a call a little bit later. The washing machine was doing fine at first and then it wasn't. The water is not sucking all out the washing machine out either. Nevertheless, AHS is an added insurance to my current insurance. The power went out and when the power came back on, the air conditioner was blowing out warm air, and it happened several times. It was really hot that day. The first time it happened, I turned it off and waited about half an hour. I turned it back on and it was still blowing that warm air. The first time the tech AHS sent came, he replaced the capacitor. Days later, the same thing happened. There was a power surge and the air conditioner went out. I turned it off and waited about half an hour and turned it back on, and it was not blowing out any cold air. In fact, it was barely blowing out any air.
I stood on the chair and held my hand up to some of the vents in the different areas of the house, and there was hardly a whisper of air coming out. A tech came out again and took a look at it. I was told there was nothing wrong and it's a fairly new air conditioner as well. The tech couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I kept it off for another half an hour, and it started blowing out more air than it had previously. I had no idea what was wrong with it and I've even had all our vents cleaned. It was so hot and I figured a little whisper of air was better than no air at all. It was climbing in temperature when it was just blowing out the whisper of air and it was up to 82 in here. Eventually, it came back up to speed and it took four hours at least before it dropped even one degree.
Early in the next year, I'm going to renew my contract with American Home Shield. The good thing is that almost all of my appliances are brand new. My dishwasher is brand new so there shouldn't be really much of anything to go wrong. But just in case, I like to have that assurance. Get American Home Shield because it is worth it. I don't have to worry about things going wrong when I know I can call somebody. They'll come out and fix it. It ended up being two weeks or more before the washing machine got repaired. I like to call to submit claims to American Home Shield. The process is very easy. Recently, I called them to submit a claim for my pool. I had some filters that needed to be replaced. On the same day that I called, I was told it was gonna take a little longer. But, then, the technician said that he was on his way. He was in town so he would stop by. I wasn't home but he waited a few minutes for me to get to the house, and he got in. He ordered the part and he came a few days later as soon as he got it. He replaced it, and he was amazing. He was really quick putting it on. Since the repair, the filter has been working great.
My air conditioning unit got replaced last year, too, and I was told that American Home Shield was changing everything, like the ducts. However, I didn't feel like I got everything that I needed. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is simple and it's not a problem but, getting the issue fixed is. The contractors are good and they always resolve the issue except for Tampa Pool and Spa who is horrible. My pump went out and it took me about two weeks to get my pool fixed. I had to call AHS every two days because they kept saying the contractor didn't submit the diagnostics and they're waiting on it. But whenever I called the contractor, it would go straight to voicemail and nobody would return my phone calls. So I called AHS back and they told me that they're gonna email the contractor, who sent the diagnostics but the prices were missing. I called back in two days and the reps told me that the contractor already submitted the prices but forgot one. In the meantime, my pool can't go without a pump or it's gonna turn green but the bigger issue is having to call AHS constantly to get something resolved.
Then when my appliance was getting fixed, AHS sent somebody to come out. The contractor took a look at it and said they need to submit the request into AHS and see if it gets approved. I didn't hear anything for a week and I had to call AHS. They told me they're ordering the parts and that these should be coming in. So then I called a week later and they said they're still waiting on the part. But they never updated me to tell me that it was even approved and what was going on and I continuously had to call them. But once the appliance got fixed then it was perfectly fine and I love the appliance guys who came out here.
AHS credited me $75 because I had such a hard time and issue with getting my pool fixed. So when I called for the appliance, they said that my service is gonna be zero. But then when the people came out here for the appliances, they charged my account $75. So I called AHS and told them about it and they said I should wait until next time and then use my credit. I told them I did and even made sure that they weren't gonna charge me the $75 and they said yes. If you go on Facebook to American Home Shield, you're gonna see all the same complaints pretty much.
Nevertheless, I love American Home Shield. They have the best and the most coverage for the most appliances and internal things of your home and they repair the most but I have to constantly stay on top of them. They don't let me know whether something's approved or not and it's a hassle having to call and wait 45 minutes or sometimes an hour to get somebody on the line. And then once they get on the line, it's always an excuse. If I don't call them and keep on them about it, then it could take even longer for me to get my things fixed. If you can do that, then AHS is the one to go with.

My AC stopped working On August 26th. I had to have three separate techs come out from the AC company they partner with only to be told by the third tech that it was an electrical issue. Why the first two couldn't have discovered that I don't know. Regardless, they called in the request for an electrician after the visit. The next morning I called to confirm they received the request and was told they had and that it would be authorized within an hour. I didn't receive a call and called back where the representative said they had not received the diagnostic from the tech. He further investigated and after 50 minutes my call was disconnected. Nobody called me back.
I called again. Another tech said they were waiting on the diagnostic (I insisted she confirm) and after calling the company she confirmed they had sent it in this morning. She said she would attempt to call the authorization department to see if they received it but apparently couldn't get through? So their authorization department doesn't answer calls from customer service. She told me she would keep trying and would call me back. No call back 3 hours later. I called again and the call was dropped after 30 minutes. Keep in mind each call has a hold time of anywhere from 10-30 minutes. I am now on my 5th call today and the representative put me on hold immediately after I explained my situation.
While I was on hold I got redirected to the very beginning of the process where it asked me to press 1 if I'm calling about an existing claim. My AC has been out for over 2 weeks now. Their authorization department has had the "diagnostic" for at least 8 hours. It says that my output is 120v and needs to be 240v. This isn't a nuanced issue. At this point best case scenario they approve it in the morning, the new company has 24 hours to contact me about an appointment, and if they schedule me next business day, it will be Monday. So a claim submitted Tuesday takes 6 days to get a visit. Absolutely ridiculous.

My home has a 21 year old central AC unit. As one would expect things go wrong with an old AC unit. Twice this summer we needed assistance from AHS to get a part replaced. Currently I am on Day 12 without central AC. The motor failed on the 21 year old AC unit. It has taken 10 days to locate a new motor. This is not surprising due to the age of the unit. This is an unacceptable amount of time to wait for a new part, especially this time of year. Some doors inside my house now do not close due to the high humidity levels in the house for this extended period of time.
I have asked multiple times for AHS to replace the unit, they say that it is up to the contractor to determine that. The contractor says that AHS requires 3 diagnoses from 3 different contractors for this to take place. Absurd. I have also asked about the cash out option for the motor multiple times but haven't received anything. The same goes for their alleged HVAC upgrade program. I have offered to pay to upgrade to a new unit if they would contribute some money to that process. Still nothing. After attempting to speak to supervisors to escalate this discussion, I was told that they don't speak to customers. Also absurd. At this point, I want a new AC unit installed. Freon will be extremely difficult to find in 15 months (2020), more reason for a new unit. The current unit is antique and will continue to have parts that fail. We have used American Home Shield for over 10 years. We haven’t had any complaints. We had 4 houses covered, one of them just recently sold. Now we have 3 covered, one of those is coverage for my mother’s house. The service can be slow sometimes but as long as it was done correctly we had no complaints. Thursday August 30th when leaving for work I saw water dripping from our dining room ceiling. I got my husband up who discovered water coming from a bathroom wall. He immediately shut the water off to the house. We are on well and septic, so we need our water. Relieved that we have AHS we felt we had no worries.
When my husband called we were told we owed a balance of $30.76. We have no clue what the $30.76 was for. The monthly payments come directly out of our bank account. We have made all of our service deductibles, which comes directly out of our bank account. We were told we could not schedule service without paying this unexplained $30.76. We had no choice but to pay it because we needed service ASAP so we could get our water back on. The contractor they gave us stated they could not come out till Tuesday, September 4th. As I stated we are on well and septic and need our problem taken care of quickly and even if we weren’t, five days is too long to have your water off. My husband called back and asked for a different contractor and expressed to AHS we needed this taken care of ASAP because our whole house was without water. They gave us Dave & Sons Plumbing.
Dave & Sons came out that morning, removed a leaking diverter from the wall and capped the water supply lines off. Turned the water back on to the house and told my husband he did not have the diverter and had to order it and will call him when it arrives. Okay we were very satisfied; the plumber came out quickly and we had water. Now 11 days later we have not heard from the plumber. My husband calls on September 10th to check on the status of the part and repair. The plumber responds with “are you home now, I can come out today.” So, the plumber comes out and put the diverter in the wall.
My husband watches him and takes a picture of the repair of the diverter. At some point the plumber removes our Delta Victorian style fixtures and replaces them which some very low-end fixtures. At no point was my husband advised that this switch out was being made. He was never given the choice to accept this drastic change. Once discovered, he called Dave a & Sons Plumbing back and told them how dissatisfied with the drastic downgrade of our fixture. They told them they did what AHS requires. What??? We are not given a choice of what goes into our house? We contacted AHS and was advised all they required is that it works. What??? My husband was never informed of this drastic change. Did this plumber order the diverter or not? Did he just put in what he had because he forgot to order the part? There was nothing wrong with my fixtures.
Also, my husband called the plumber asking for our handle back and it went to a voicemail. September 11th, no response back from the plumber. He called the plumber today and was told they would drop our fixture off to our home. I left a comment on AHS Facebook page Monday night after speaking with customer service and it was taken down very quickly. After waiting approximately an hour on hold to express our concern about the service, but a comment could be taken down in minutes. We are so disappointed with this whole ordeal and how AHS could care less about our concern. They offered no solution. I would no longer recommend AHS to anyone!
UPDATE ON 10/07/2018: We have still heard nothing at all. They immediately responded my complaint with “resolving“. They ask for our contact information which we gave them immediately and we have yet to hear anything back from American Home Shield. This company was quick to mark my complaint as resolving. Not a peep out of them. It is time l take this complaint to the next level. And yeah they continue to take the monthly payments out of my bank account on time without missing a beat.

AHS assigned two Asko-uncertified companies to work on our dishwasher. After a month, our Asko remains unrepaired. AHS offered a cash buyout. The offer was about half of the original cost of the Asko. We had to order another dishwasher since AHS denied our claim to have the damage done by Company A repaired. No evidence to support our claim - my word as a 17 year customer against a company receiving an average of one and half stars in our area for home warranty repairs on Yelp reviews.
I gave AHS 3 stars because of their reliance of the integrity of repair companies to have brand knowledgeable and competent technicians, the time it took to resolve the issue and keeping the customer informed. AHS has an excessive wait time for phone calls. The callback option is the best option to use. Advice to all home warranty customers: Take pictures of the home warranty technician while they are working on your appliance. Ask for specific details about the repair on the repair companies invoice/work order. I didn't so I have to shoulder part of the blame. I failed because I had faith in other people's honesty.

Requested service for our ASKO dishwasher on Aug 23, 2018. Company A sent a repairmen 4 days later. Company A repairman broke a bracket holding the overfill sensor and left it disconnected. Company A repairman said it was a bad overfill sensor and a part had to be ordered. After a week no call back from Company A. I called AHS to get the status. I was told Company A called AHS and said they were not qualified to work on Asko dishwashers and AHS should assign another company. Company B arrived a week later and found the previous Company A repairman had broken the overfill sensor bracket, sensor burned and wires left hanging. Also, the previous Company A repairman had not discovered a leak causing the alarm.
Company B said it was not authorized to repair damage done by the previous company. Company B's repairman took photos of the damage and told us to contact AHS (which I did). I asked Company B's repairmen to have his supervisor forward his findings and photos of the damage to AHS. I did call AHS and gave the representative the information. She said she would contact Company B and ask for the photos and information regarding the damage done by Company A. It has been since Aug 23, 2018 since the initial request for repair was made. The dishwasher is still broken. We have received no information from AHS as to the status of the repair. It seems AHS does not care about keeping their customers informed as to the resolution status.

My experience with AHS has been inconsistent! I called AHS to request service with my ac unit on 8.18.18. The company I was referred to was horrible! They gave me the run around for over 3 weeks. I informed AHS throughout my process. I was told in 9.1.18 that my service fee would be taken care of due to the hassle and inconvenience. Was also told a supervisor would follow up with me with 48hrs. I received no callback as of today. I’ve called AHS Twice today only to be placed on hold for over 45 mins each call. (One was dropped???) I would not recommend AHS. They have no good follow through. Staying true to your word is most important and when a paying customer has to experience this type of service is not worth it!!!

They keep promising a call back within minutes and it’s been over a week. Took seven half days from work and countless hours on the phone. Every call we wait between 45 minutes to an hour. Not one person in the company has shown any real concern for our situation.

So ongoing issue here. We have had a tech 3 times and tomorrow will be 4 for our AC acting up and they are not getting the issue resolved. The first time it was fixed for a few months and then it went out again. They sent a company that would not go on the roof because of solar panels which I can understand but they had to send the claim back and we did not hear back from anyone. We finally got someone to come out on 9-10 and he stated he replaced the condenser motor before our breaker would trip about twice a day before this and he stated that was the issue. Well here we are the next day on 9-11 and the breaker was tripped again. I did not think much about it and just reset it and we went out for dinner for my wife’s birthday. We arrived home and again breaker tripped. I reset again but noticed after about 15 minutes that the House was not getting colder but the air was on. Oh it’s not blowing cold air at all now.
So I called the ac company and left a message with them and then thought I wonder what the reviews are. Just by searching the name there are pages and pages different links all with terrible 1.2 star reviews claiming they typically make things worse or are unable to fix it. Are you serious?!? So I called AHS and as calmly explained as I can (now mind you I live in Las Vegas and have an 8 month old so when it gets up to 85-90 in the House No one is too happy). They refuse to send a different company and said maybe they can send lead and they will send an order over to the company.
So we will see what happens but so far we have a motor replaced a few months ago, another tech that could not go on the roof because of solar panels, a 3rd tech yesterday that seems of completely killed our ac unit because now it won’t blow cold air and we will see what happens tomorrow but I really really hope we can get this issue resolved. I will follow up and see if they can get this thing resolved before I have to take steps to figure out what else to do for my family because it gets a little warm in Las Vegas during the summer. The good thing is that the weather is cooling down a little and I think it is only going to be 102 degrees tomorrow. Further will come.

We bought our new home and shortly after, the AC tanked. The house got as hot as 84 degrees. I called AHS and it took quite some time to get someone out. Since then we’ve had 2 visits, and now no AC at all in a desert city! Both technicians told AHS it should be replaced but they refuse. It’s been almost 2 months and still not resolved. AHS would rather put a band-aid on it and it keep breaking than to give us a new one even though all the professionals are telling them it needs to be condemned. It’s 35 years old!!
I am beyond disappointed. The warranty people are rude on the phone. Our real estate agent buys a warranty for every sale but because of this I’ll let him know to not use AHS. That alone will cost 1000s of dollars. Their customer service leaves MUCH to be desired. If you want a company that actually cares about their customers and doesn’t leave them without AC after multiple calls, then step right up. They’ll be sure to take terrible care of you.

I purchased optional coverage for my pool equipment and piping. I placed a call because I have a leak, it took 5 days for the company to show up. After a week of no feedback I called both the serving company and AHS. I was told by AHS they had to wait for a report. Well they got the report which said there were no visible leaks, which was told to everyone when the call was placed. The pool company stated that there should be a leak detection company called. The problem is no one told me. I spent over an hour on hold to be told today that my optional coverage that I purchased isn't covered? What? I have now been waiting to speak with a supervisor for over 40 minutes and been on the phone for an hour and 40 minutes. How is it that I pay for optional coverage to be told even though you bought it we aren't covering it. Sounds like fraud to me.

The line was frozen outside next to the AC unit. We submitted the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the contractor they sent out came in 24 hours. The day the technician came in, the line wasn’t frozen anymore. He replaced the capacitor and he also checked the pressure if it needed any freon. The AC has been working fine since the repair. However, when I did a claim on the air condition, I also did a claim on the electricity and they fixed a part of the problem, but they didn’t solve it. So, we had to call back and when the technician came back to fix it, there was another charge of $75. I was charged 75 in the beginning, so it was not fair that I got charged twice when the electricity problem should have been fixed in the beginning. Nonetheless, American Home Shield is a company you can trust and I would recommend it.

I called American Home Shield due to faulty light switches and because our ceiling fan would only run at one speed. They sent a contractor who swapped out the electrical outlets and looked at the fan. He said he was gonna pick the fan up the next day and he took care of it the next day. The fan now runs really well and better and it's keeping us cool. My issue however is that I submitted all my credit card information for autopay then I got it to link, but now they're saying I still owe them money. It's as if the system never took my information. But everything else is wonderful. As of now, things have worked out really well and having the home warranty has been convenient. The main reason I got it is because I'll be deployed, and now anything my wife would need, she can just take care of it.

My washing machine, ice maker and the microwave all decided to simultaneously quit on me within a week and I filed a claim for them with American Home Shield under the same umbrella as appliances. It has one trade fee. I filed the claim online and it took less than less than five minutes. Calling them though results in wait times that are usually enormous. Nine times out of 10, I’ll end up taking the callback and even when they do the callback, I’ll end up on hold for another 30 minutes after they call me back.
The contractor that AHS sent had a couple of issues with communication but they resolved it and they were very professional, clean and efficient. We still have to complete the ticket for the microwave and ice maker and it took quite a bit longer than expected to get the washer taken care of. I anticipated that we would be out for a week and a half but it took almost three weeks to complete the process. It took the contractor eight days to get out here and then AHS looked for parts for five business days. They finally said it was a lost cause to try to repair it and made me an offer within a couple of days to either order a machine or accept cash-in-lieu. I went with the cash-in-lieu option and bought a washing machine from a local distributor.
I would appreciate it in the future if the service was more prompt with the processing of the ticket, making decisions rather than having the department sit on it. I understand that they have their processes in place but it took a strenuous amount of time to complete this. That’s not enough points though to make me not recommend American Home Shield to future friends and family or to renew my contract the next time. I’m very satisfied with AHS.

The AC started to not blow cold so we called American Home Shield and had a horrible experience with the first contractor that they sent out. It was Texas Heat and Air. The claims process started around 6 o'clock on a Monday evening when we filed the claim. AHS got back with us that night and said that they would get in touch with the contractor, and they did. The next morning, we heard back from the contractor and that the repair was scheduled for Thursday which wasn’t a big deal. We knew it's busy because it was summer in Texas and ACs were going out.
Thursday between 12 and 3 was when the contractor said he would get there but he didn’t get there until 3:30, which was not a huge deal, and he diagnosed the problem. However, we didn’t hear anything back from him on Friday so my wife called on Monday to follow up and his response was, "Oh, I got drunk this weekend. It was my birthday. We got a little caught up." That was a red flag one. In the same conversation he goes, "Oh yeah, I'm entering in the work order right now." So, he waited from Thursday evening until Monday to enter in the work order. We called back on Tuesday and Wednesday but we still didn't hear anything from him. Finally on Thursday, we were blowing this guy up. We said, "Hey, what is going on?" He said, "I haven't heard from your warranty company yet."
We tried to get a hold of AHS but I had an issue with the numbers in their website. They put my wife on hold for over an hour every time she called. The only way we were finally able to get a hold of AHS was when we tried the phone numbers from an email I got from them and one of the phone numbers worked and I was able to get through. I told AHS that I wanted to switch contractors and they said that if I did that, I'd be charged another $75 service fee. At that time, I was irritated to hear that and I decided I'd give the contractor another chance. AHS called the him and he looked into the problem. However, he sent the work order to the wrong policy number. At that point, it has already been a week and a half. AHS rep called the contractor three different times and on the third time, he snapped at the AHS rep because she was calling him all the time and she said, "I need to know what's going on for my customers."
The contractor said, "I'll get the work order sent in this evening." It didn’t get sent in till Friday morning. When my wife talked to the contractor, he said, "Well, I don’t think they're gonna cover it. The system's been tampered with." And I said, "No. That doesn’t sound right at all, dude." Because when we moved in, there was a cover sitting behind the AC unit. We didn’t know what it was and it had been sitting there since we bought the house in February. Apparently, it was the cover to the compressor inside the unit. I do have a couple of friends in the AC business and they told me to pull the safety pin because it had started to smoke. The AC compressor had basically fried itself and since I work from out of town, one of my friends told me to have my wife to pull the safety disconnect from the outside fuse box.
The contractor quoted us with $3,500 if AHS didn’t cover it. So the next Monday which has been a full two weeks after starting the process, he said, "You know what, you just find somebody else to deal with it." Because I was like, "We're not dealing with you, dude." I called AHS and offered to pay another $75 service fee just to get rid of the guy and AHS did a good job. Texas Best showed up the very next day and put in the work order immediately right there on-site. And then everything had to be ordered. After everything was said and done, the repair cost us $210 on top of the $75 to cover for the old-style Freon, which was fine. $285 to have your AC fixed in the middle of summer is not a big deal and I'm glad. American Home Shield did a good job however, their number on their website needs to be corrected.

The first guy that was gonna come out for the microwave issue called me and he set up the appointment. I told him that he needed to call my daughter since I work. I gave him her number and he never called her. Instead, he called me and when I didn’t answer because I was at work. He just left me a message saying he came to our house, but no one was available, and to call him back. I called him back four times and I got a recording. So, I called American Home Shield and they said they were gonna send somebody in. I have had several experiences with AHS where I’ve had horrible people come to my house that did not do well. I hate it when AHS send out the subpar people that are in business for themselves. I would rather have AHS send a company that's professional.
I had an experience a few years ago where I had a microwave issue and it took AHS over a month to resolve it because the guy that came out twice had no clue what he was doing. Then AHS finally sent out somebody reputable. The guy said it wasn't fixable and that I needed a new microwave. When I called AHS for my dishwasher, I told them that they should send me somebody that's a company, and whoever they sent was amazing. But AHS charged me $75 service fee for all these people that didn't come to my house because I paid online when I submitted my claim. I called AHS about it and they told me they would fix it.
They fixed one of them but three weeks later, I got an email that my account was past due for the people that didn't come to my house. I called AHS again and the rep told me he was trying for a week to have it go through, but I haven't got another email. But as long as my account shows that it's up-to-date then that means AHS refunded both of them.

My AC wasn’t catching up. It kept turning on but it wasn’t cold, so it was staying on the whole day and night. It was also leaking water through the top. I submitted a claim with AHS online on my phone and I also talked with their rep, which was great. But there was a misunderstanding. I made a claim awhile back about plumbing issues and they mixed up the claims. They sent the plumber the first time but they didn’t charge me for that. I had to tell them that I didn’t need a plumber and that I needed an AC guy.
Other than that, both of the contractors were nice. They were professionals and told me exactly what I needed. The first guy told me that he knew it was a mistake as soon as he arrived because he figured something on the description that said that he needed to fix something on top on the roof and that wasn’t within his job description. Then the AC guy was pretty cool. He told me exactly what was wrong, what he was gonna do, how long it was gonna take, and all the details. He also told me that after, if anything happened, I was covered for so and so much and I could call anytime I wanted.
Whenever I hear people have issues with their AC or a concern with a certain equipment, I tell them that they should look into American Home Shield. The warranty is very beneficial and people need more of an awareness of what exactly AHS does and when I tell them, they want to get more information and call AHS. I tell my parents all the time about AHS and they're looking into working with them somehow and get a contract going. AHS keeps you from the hassle of trying to find a contractor and somebody to come cover it. And even if you do find someone, you don’t even know if they're gonna do their job or they're just gonna scam you. That doesn’t happen with American Home Shield. With them, I don’t have any worries and if anything happens, I can just call them.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the leak in my garage. I got a leak twice. The first one was already fixed and it was a good experience. And then when the second time I claimed the leaks, I went online but it said it was already fixed so the ticket that AHS issued to the plumber screwed up with some things. They told me I needed to go back and call them to fix the ticket because it was something else. I contacted the plumber who said he didn't have time. They didn't want to send anybody because it wasn't an emergency. I said it was an emergency because it was going to flood my house. And they said, "You have to go back and change tickets to emergency." So I had to call back again to change the ticket.
They've put on emergency now and then, I asked if they can come out and check it both. They said it had to be two days and that's the rule, but my house is gonna be ruined in two days. I called the phone number again and they said, "Well, we don't have any people to do that. The latest at least that we can help you is on Tuesday." That happened on a Friday and then there is a weekend. Then they said, "Oh, we don't go out on a weekend." Oh, my God! It was a joke.
It was not a good experience. It was ridiculous. I understand my deductible is only $75. I don't know how much AHS gets from the $75 to the plumber, but it seems like the plumber doesn't want to deal with them because it's cheap. Either they don't have the people to go out or they just feel like they don't wanna do it. I was disappointed with that so I canceled. Why do I have to go through things like that for this emergency? If I call any other plumber, they go right away. Why doesn't AHS find a new plumber that's 24/7? There's a lot. That money for covering was useless and I ended up having to pay for myself.

The company that came out decided to come on September 3rd which was Labor Day! All the guy did was take a glance at our water heater and said, "Yup. He told us everything looked good though he said we were up to code and did NOT need any modifications done, just a new water heater. We thought, "Great. Will wait to hear from American Home Shield". Well the next day American Home Shield calls us and tells us they will cover the cost of a new water heater and labor BUT... it’s going to cost us 800$+ to be up to code and for modifications!

It takes each time over an hour to get thru to someone when you call. And when you do, you get put on hold and hold another 30 to 40 minutes. I am writing this review while holding for 53 minutes. This is regarding a service request placed 54 days ago.

Our house came with AHS. On the website it says electrical issues are covered. But the vent in the bathroom isn't. Not under the bathroom aspect or the electric part. We had another issue that wasn't covered either. We got leaky toilets. Finally something was covered. Plumbers called the next day came out in 48hrs. They called in and were put on hold. After 30 minutes of being on hold they said they had to go to their next job. They never got approval to work. So they came, we are billed $75 and our issue is not resolved! I'm paying for no work... all because AHS isn't doing their job. I'm still trying to get ahold of AHS. When they come back, I better not get a SECOND fee just because there was no approval to make the fix!!!

American Home Shield had done what they said they would do. When my microwave quit running I filed a claim online and they sent me the information. The contractor came right out to check. He fixed one thing and it lasted for a little while, and then it quit again. It was what he was afraid of. He told American Home Shield about it and then the part that was bad, was not one that was replaceable. You had to change the whole thing. So the contractor worked with American Home Shield and made it easy on me. My microwave got replaced and the new one works great. I also had a plumbing claim and I was able to have it fixed without a problem.

I’m a real estate agent and I’ve been selling American Home Shield warranty since 2010. Also, I've been using them personally for three years now. I've had very professional contractors through AHS. Though the customer service from AHS is not always up there, they always do the right thing in the end. However, I’m really upset with them right now. They are not servicing me properly.
The guy that they chose for my furnace issue did an exceptional job and had incredible customer service. But the AHS reps that I dealt with in the beginning were slack off. My washing machine has been down, and the check guy from Fred’s Appliance sent in a request for parts on Friday. They never received the call back from AHS, which meant the parts were not ordered. Today I heard that they’re not coming to repair my machine. So now I’m going a week and a half without a washing machine. I have a little child and I have guests coming in town. All this is because American Home Shield did not bother to respond to Fred’s Appliance.

I had to call American Home Shield when my dryer was not functioning one day. They contacted the appliance repair person and they, in turn, contacted me. We spoke on the phone and they asked if I had the vent line cleaned out of lint. I explained that I had just bought the house and I had not done it since I had moved in and I don’t know if it had been done previously. They told me that sometimes the lint on the vent line will be the case. So my husband and I made the decision to contact the person that the appliance dealer suggested that would come out for a fee to clean the vent. And once we did that, the dryer functioned perfectly. It was a type of sensor that would not allow it to operate until that vent had been cleaned. In closing, everybody at AHS has been very helpful.

The washer and then the dryer needed some repairs. Ennis responded very quickly. I just had to wait for everything to go through the proper channels at American Home Shield. Ennis came and said that the bearings on the washer were gone. They decided it was too expensive to repair and replaced it. Then they did some work on the dryer. We’ve had to use it twice for one week and it got very hot and wouldn’t cool down. They came back out to look at it and replaced the dryer as well. Once they pronounced the appliances dead, it took four days to get the value. At first, they gave us a choice and there was no money involved.
When the delivery company came to install the washer, they said they couldn’t turn the water off. Where the washer was hooked up behind the wall, it was not a typical one with a typical valve and they couldn’t figure it out. I said we could shut the water over at the main, but they said they don’t do that. They turned around and said they'd just deliver the washer. I said no they won’t. The contract was deliver, install and take the old one out. They wouldn’t even let me make a phone call. I was gonna call American Home Shield. I was also gonna call the person that put that valve in the house to find out how you shut it off. The delivery people said they didn't have time to wait. That took about a week to settle. We had Lowes come and replace it and it took them a whole 15 minutes to take the old washer out and put a new one in.
They should make the process much simpler by empowering everybody. When I wanted to find out what the buy-out value was they said it was a separate department. Why is that a separate department? All they have to do is put it on the computer, give the reps access. They have a chart. This is the age, this is the model, here’s the what they pay for it. It’s not brain surgery or rocket science.

I had a heater that could not keep the temperature up at anything reasonable. The online process of submitting a claim for that wasn’t very friendly and was fairly difficult. Even when I’m ordering online, it’s quirky as hell. And now, I have a process where I go check to see if it worked and if I actually got the confirmation. It used to be I could file and forget, and now, I could not. However, once the heating and air company was notified, it worked fine. It took three days for someone to come out and the interaction with the contractor was great, but they were fairly slow, to contact and to get out. But it was what it was and it was cold to get out at the time. It’s been several months since the repair and the heater works fine. It still struggles. The problem is the unit appears to be too small for the house. So, this heating problem is probably gonna rear its ugly head again.

I've also done submitting the claim over the phone and it was equally satisfactory. The contractor called us immediately to set up an appointment and they arrived exactly when they said they would. They had to order some parts and they came back. It was pretty quick. It was in within a day or two and they fixed the problem. They did a good job and we've had no further issues with it. We purchased the house and we had a home inspection done on it. Everything was working fine then, but the air conditioner went out. The outside compressor was not running and we did not have any air conditioning on a side of the house at a time when the temperature was about 100-degree heat. Our realtor reminded us that we have a warranty with American Home Shield, so I called them and they sent a contractor out. The contractor, Haskins Heating and Air Conditioning, came out the next day and they were very professional and quick. Surprisingly, they had the parts that they needed. They got the AC back in business and it has worked fine since the repair.
We have moved a number of times and we’ve had home warranties on homes. They’ve always been for a year and we’ve never extended them. This is the first time we have ever used one and it was a very good experience to the point that we've talked about using AHS some more and extending our warranty with them when the time comes. We have already recommended them to some some friends and family.

Unfortunately, the washer needed a transmission. The tech came out the next morning after the part came in and got the washer working. I love the contractors that AHS uses, like Martin's Appliances. They come out as soon as they possibly can and they get the job done. Previously, AHS sent people out to replace my AC heat unit, too. I checked to see if it was the ceiling fan that was installed before we had moved in, but nothing was there, so at that point, I didn’t wanna mess with the outlets. We called American Home Shield and put a claim in. Our interaction with the reps was excellent and very professional. The contractor, Collins Electric, was also very professional on the phone and they were out within a couple of days. They were on time and got everything done. What the technician found was behind one of the outlets, a wire was loose. It was a good thing we found it because it was a loose wire and it was arching against the metal bracket.
We found out that as far as all of the outlets in the bedroom, it was like a Christmas tree light that when you lose one bulb, you lose all. The one outlet behind the dresser had a loose connection and it caused all the others not to work either, so the technician did a bit of wiring repair and it has been fine since. He was very thorough as far as his explanation of the repairs that were done and everything was excellent. That very same week, we had a refrigerator go bad and we got a brand new refrigerator.
I've been highly recommending American Home Shield to everybody. I tell all my friends who are looking for a house or under review as far as who their mortgage company is in trying to get a loan for a house that if they get approved and get that house, to make sure they get AHS. I also tell that to friends and families and people I know that don’t have AHS who are having problems with their stuff and are paying out-of-pocket. Called AHS about a leaking hot water tank on Thursday afternoon, the technician from A Crown Plumbing did show up the next day as scheduled. Then began to say that the tank needed to be replaced but he thought a shorter tank would be easier for him to install. I told him I’d be ok with that as long as there were no additional costs to me, otherwise do a one for one swap. Technician then switched to “well we can’t do it until next week”, wait, it’s Friday. He indicated that he didn’t have enough work to justify coming in. Why is that my problem?
I called AHS and the customer service rep assured me that if A Crown Plumbing couldn’t get it done the next day they’d get another company to do it (AHS check your recordings). We did get a call from AHS Sunday indicating that the contractor submitted an estimate for $675: $100 to modify a ground, $100 to modify the PVC drain, 150 to adjust the pipes, $150 for this and that and so on for a total of $675.00.
We explained to the AHS rep to please get a written estimate indicating which items were required code upgrades and which are not, as well as an explanation of what all the charges are and why any would be ours since we’re already paying AHS for the insurance, I would expect that if a flex line must be replaced when the tank is it would be included. Well it’s Monday at almost the end of the business day and nothing from either AHS or A Crown Plumbing. So it’s looking like a few more cold showers are in my future. I hate to say it but this is really not much of a surprise AHS responsiveness has always been less that prompt. Save your money in a piggybank you'll be much happier.

When you are in an emergency type situation, my experience with AHS has not been good. My sump pump went out and basement is flooded. The contractor that they provided me does not answer their phone or return your calls. I have spent 1.5 hours today trying to get back in touch with AHS, most of this time is spent on hold to speak to someone. When I do get to speak to someone, they put me on hold and then the phone gets disconnected. I asked that they call me back if we get disconnected again and heard nothing back. I need to get this situation resolved quickly and it is not happening. I just want to be able to have resolution to this very frustrating problem.
Updated on 09/11/2018: After spending 1.5 hours during the day on hold on 9/10, we contacted them that evening at 7 pm and waited 45 mins to get someone on the phone. They stated the same thing, they needed to try to get in contact with the contractor they provided us initially. We didn't get disconnected this time, but stated they left the contractor a message and would need to wait for a response.
I then contacted AHS this morning, waited another 25 mins on hold, got someone and everyone sounds the same... very difficult to understand. I told them everything that has happened and they wanted to put me on hold to get in contact with the contractor again. I said, I have already tried calling the contractor twice this morning and no answer. They stated they have guidelines they have to follow. I stated I understand that, but I have an emergency type situation on my hands and cannot wait a week just to hear back from the contractor for an initial call. I stated I do not know how a company stays in business by not answering calls or returning messages left for them. I stated that I need to get this resolved today, there was silence and the person at AHS hung up on me.
I then get contacted by someone from the company via this Consumer Affairs site. They wanted my info to resolve the situation. I gave it to them and a few mins later, I had a missed call and a text message from the contractor - The Service People Inc., in Columbus Ohio. They stated they had been in the office all day yesterday, 9/10, when I had called and hadn't received a call or voicemail from me. They only received a call from American Home Shield and they were trying to contact me to schedule an appt.
They said when they called my cell phone #, they could not leave a message. I have received plenty of messages on my phone. So the contractor, The Service People, Inc., are not being truthful to me and only contacted me once I had escalated the issue on this site. When I contacted them back, they said the first available appt. they had is this Thursday afternoon, 9/13. I stated this is unacceptable, as my basement is flooded and my sump pump is not working. They said that they are booked and that is all they can do and could not send someone out today, when we have someone there at the house dealing with this mess in our basement.
My assumption is that this contractor that American Home Shield has set up, is conveniently not available to take calls and then they cannot come out until late in the week. This is their way of getting you to go with someone else, so they don't have to pay for it. I would not recommend American Home Shield or The Service People Inc., in Columbus, Ohio.

We had an issue with our sump pump not working and standing water on the side of our house. We put in a claim through our home warranty and they sent out a company from Columbus (an hour and a half away from where we live). It took a few days to get the company out and they claimed to know the problem and replaced our sump pump.
A few days later during a heavy rainfall, we experienced standing water again on the side of house, threatening to flood our basement. We researched American Home Shield's expedited claim policy, but at that point we couldn't wait for their "expedited" service and called a local company to fix our issue. The local company was out within an hour and repaired the actual problem with the sump pump, which was a clog in the drain line to the sewer.
When I called today to see if they would reimburse any of our costs, I was met with an hour hold time (twice!) and a very rude customer service agent who told me there were "absolutely NO circumstances under which they will reimburse" and that there is "no way they'd pay for an outside company." This customer service rep did not listen to me and did not seem to understand that I was unhappy with the unthorough work from the company they made us work with. I am going to be canceling our contract with them and finding a different home warranty company to work with.

We called him and he could not make it out to our home until Monday because his truck was broke down. We called back (with a long phone time wait) and were told their other service providers could not make it out until Monday or Tuesday.
When we asked to find a repairman in our area, then send AHS the invoice, minus the service call fee, they said it was within their rights in the contract to provide service within 48 hours (2 BUSINESS days) and they would not pay a service provider we hired independently to fix the appliance. We did find one to come out that afternoon and repair the freezer @ a cost to us of $225. We will not be renewing our contract with AHS when it expires in December. I've been with American Home Shield for roughly 2 years now, and it's been pretty uneventful until now. I recently changed bank accounts, and because I wasn't able to delete my banking information within my online account on my own (which seems antiquated to me), I called in and spoke to someone in their billing dept. This person went through the steps to delete my old information and I thought my next payment with my new account would happen smoothly. Boy was I wrong. In summary, AHS kept trying to run a service charge of $75 through my old account, which resulted in 5 NSF charges.
Trying to get it resolved was very frustrating, mostly because I couldn't get anyone there, even the supervisor I eventually got a hold of, to call me back once I provided them with the necessary documentation. His ID is ** if anyone at AHS cares to follow up about this. I am always the one calling in to speak with him in order to move the issue along and get updates. In the meantime, I've been double charged for this month because of how my policy renewed. Even though they've reassured me that the refund is on the way, it's been a week and it's still now showing up in my account. So, I'm still waiting for a resolution to both issues...I'm actually waiting on hold to speak with him as I write this.
I figured if their own staff can't be motivated to take good care of their customers, maybe some public pressure will help. My advice to anyone shopping for this type of service is to know what you're getting into. AHS isn't a terrible company, but their customer service is well below average. I gave 2 stars in fairness to the "uneventful" year and half or so with them, with no issues like this surfacing. Hopefully my 2 issues get resolved soon.

I had some issues with my washer and dryer and I called it in. Calling American Home Shield for claims is a little bit better because I trust it. Their reps are always real pleasant and understanding. However, I had an issue with the contractor that came out. He said the washer needed to be moved but he couldn’t move it, and then he just left. He didn’t give my son a chance to move it. When we called the contractor back to reschedule, we had a hard time getting this person. It would take days for him to call back. So the case was over 30 days, and he said that the deal was closed even though he never did anything at my house.
I called American Home Shield to let them know the situation and they opened the case back up. Then I called the contractor back to tell this to him. He said he needed to call American Home Shield and I never heard from him again. I have requested American Home Shield for a different provider but they asked me if I would give them the opportunity to reach out to the gentleman again. When they tried to reach out, they were not able to contact him. So, they sent someone out who was really thorough. The contractor was able to tell me what was going on with my washer and dryer. Everything was fine. I’d recommend American Home Shield to a lot of homeowners. I’ve had it for a very long time, and I’m pleased with the service, overall.

I closed on my house on June 26th and my son helped me get signed up with American Home Shield. I have since submitted claims, one of which was when I called due to my icemaker. The rep did really well and handled everything that I had. My icemaker is an older model and it would freeze up, but after the contractor was here for 10 minutes, he got it going and it started making ice. I was very pleased with my experience.

When I had a problem with my air conditioner unit, I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. The process was simple and the contractor who came out was fine. However, he checked out the AC unit but the problem wasn't the unit specifically and it needed a plumber. We tried to refile the claim but we found out that American Home Shield didn't cover what the problem was. And so we had to call on our own. We didn't even use American Home Shield for that.
We've been using American Home Shield for years. And for the most part, they provide the coverage that we need. There have been a few times though where we had to go back and forth with them to get something rectified. As a result of this, one of the things that struck me was that the website where we filed the initial claim is not specific in terms of what you can share while making the claim. Had we been able to do that, we would've ended up having the plumber out right off the bat. Furthermore, I'd tell everyone to read the fine print especially with regards to coverage. You can't assume that they're gonna cover anything without any question or any difficulty in terms of trying to get a resolution.
In addition, we've had situations where we've had people come in and the next thing, they're telling us that we gotta get a whole new thing. They're trying to make money off of us rather than just fixing the problem. So, when I submit a claim, they just have people on the list that basically pops up and whoever is available, that's who they send out. There's no apparent scrutiny of how good these various plumbing, HVAC and electric appliance companies and their technicians may be and how well they perform.

Our toilet was leaking and the tub was backing up so we tried to submit a claim with American Home Shield on a computer. For whatever reason, I didn't get a response. So I waited on the phone for about 30 minutes before I got a representative, but they were friendly and helpful. They got everything I needed done. The 2 contractors that came out were also excellent. I showed them the problem and they did a great job. Usually, I have to have a follow up in the past, but this one that came out this time they did real good with it. The last claim I had was with my AC unit. The contractor said he had to get a part and when they had it they needed another part so I waited so long. Good thing I had my daughter that lives down here because we didn't have heat in almost the whole month while waiting on them. But they eventually got it right.

I went online to do a claim with American Home Shield and it was very hard to get to the site. When you just put American Home Shield AHS.com in, all you see is, "Well, if you wanna buy it, this is how you buy it," but there's hardly anything on service calls. But once you eventually find the site, then it works well. There's also the frustration of being on the telephone on hold because they've got a back-up calls. It's something that I've been experiencing. I've had the plumbing issues resolved very quickly, efficiently and easily when my 3 toilets were not flushing well. The small appliances person was also great. It all seems to have worked out fine. But I have air conditioning issues and they've not been resolved in a month.
I just talked to American Home Shield yesterday after waiting about half an hour for them to get on the phone. I don't know if the company they sent are just doing the plumbing or the whole shebang. It's just been a circus. The company that is supposed to be doing the work, Total Air Care, is supposed to call me and they have not. They've kept me in the dark and I've told them over and over again. I'm almost fed up with American Home Shield and I'm definitely fed up with Total Air Care. Usually, if I have one little problem, I call AHS and then the contractors comes to solve it and I move on. But this kind of just backed up on me. So I've had three different types of service calls to make. Two out of the three have been just fine but the AC people, it's either they're too big or something. They don't communicate. I've called them directly and I have to wait on the line for 20 to 30 minutes every time.

Also, I like the way American Home Shield has set up where I pay the deductible directly to them and I don’t have to deal with money with the contractor. That’s a very smart idea on their part.

We have two homes and we have a warranty with American Home Shield on both of them. We recently had a claim with AHS for our garbage disposal. I submitted the claim online and their website was pretty good. But even when I called in to say that we wanted a certain contractor that had worked on that product or area before and that we had found very satisfactory, we no longer have that ability and that was a little frustrating. Other than that, Lone Star Plumbing, the contractor that came for our garbage disposal claim assessed the situation and determined that the garbage disposal unit was no good as it was leaking water all over under the sink. The tech was polite and professional, and he replaced the unit.
AHS has been very responsive and it was only in one situation a number of years ago that we didn’t hear back from the contractor within the 24-hour period. Otherwise, they usually contacted us right away and were very good about being there at the time that they said they were going to. We would recommend AHS to all our friends.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years and things have just gotten downhill since we started. It’s worse every year. When you call in, you may be on hold for 45 minutes before you can talk to somebody and it can be even longer. I watched an entire Little League baseball game waiting on hold. I even have their executive officer’s number on speed dial because I’ve called her so many times and she’s been incredibly good. But the caliber of the companies that they send out is getting very bad. We hardly never had a company come out that we didn't have a problem.
One of the worst contractors that AHS have is for the air conditioning. A company called Baylis was out there five times for the same problem. The last time, they were there for about two minutes and then they said they couldn’t help up since they insisted it was an electrical problem and not the air conditioner, and they left. Then, we had the R & R Electric come out. They were there about three or four minutes and said that it was the compressor that shorted our air conditioner. We had to call another company because I wouldn’t allow Baylis to come back out anymore. So, American Home Shield sent a company out who found the problem and fixed it. So, it wasn’t an electrical problem in the first place.

There’s a pipe on the first floor and when I turn on the AC, I would have water flowing out of it. I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield and their website was a little old but navigating it was not difficult. The website is not up to the latest design but it’s functional. The mechanic came in in less than 48 hours and he looked into the attic. There was a container that held condensation water and he told me that dust was collecting and blocking it. He just cleaned it up and then everything was fine. Having a warranty on my property is important and it is good to have but I’m not convinced that it is a must-have. I was with a different vendor previously and I was not satisfied. AHS though, I would recommend.

After my husband and I did some research online, we found American Home Shield to have good ratings and people seemed happy with them. It's like having a safety net for when something breaks, so we have peace of mind. When we filed a claim for our dryer, it didn't take AHS long to get their contractor out. The contractor listened to us talk about the dryer and he worked on it quickly. It was beeping and the lights on the front panel were going crazy, and sometimes it just wouldn't work. Since the repair, it seems to be working and we haven't had any problems with it so we're happy. It's our first home and our first home warranty, and we've had a good experience. It was straightforward seeing our options as far as the plans and we enjoy having and knowing we can use that.

Having the warranty is really valuable and we've been more than pleased with the service we've got from AHS. But I've recommended them to my parents and they have a completely different experience, which isn't necessarily a good one. They live in an area that's in close proximity to a very affluent area. Because of that, AHS is having a really difficult time finding contracting partners because contractors wanna work directly and bill directly in the affluent areas. They have no interest in partnering with someone like AHS so, they can't get service even though AHS seems to be more than happy to take their premiums.

Since we moved into this house, everything seems to be falling apart. It's a 30-year old house and the person that owned it didn't take care of anything. You can't tell until it breaks down. The six-year old dryer just broke down. We ended up paying from our pocket for a whole solar panel issue and our most recent claim was about our refrigerator. We've made about five different calls with American Home Shield and they responded to and followed through everything. The spa was one our very first things. It wasn't blowing any water and heat, and it turned out to be a series of issues that some way have used with American Home Shield because it was on warranty.
I submitted claims over the phone, because we had just moved in back in July so I wasn't set up for anything. I usually just use the phone anyway because it goes much quicker. The internet is not as helpful as what people try to make it. If AHS was to send me an email, I would have seen that later on today and I would have potentially answered or not answered it. I pick up the phone and you heard from me immediately.
The contractor for the spa knew what he was doing, did some work and then helped one of the people in the problem that helped to fix it as it was a multiple stop problem. Then about a thousand dollars later, we're in the specs. The only thing that isn't a part of it, in terms of the whole pool structure, are the pipes that go to the roof, and the solar heating and valves because those are big wear and tear. We had all those replaced. Fortunately, if there is something wrong, there is American Home Shield to take care of it. There still might be a problem with the spa now where the heater is not working. I'll call American Home Shield for that one, which would be wonderful because if it is a problem, that's gonna save me a lot of money.
The only thing I wasn't happy with was the original because they had an emergency. When we first moved in here, one of our air conditioners which was at the third floor stopped working. It was in the living section of the house and people had to sleep on couches for a week. It was real slow, but that's how they operate. You're gonna have to wait if you choose to save money.

My dryer stopped working so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. We’re a family of six, so we use the dryer a lot. Whenever I need to file a claim, if the wait time is not long, I usually prefer speaking to a person rather than doing it online because then they can cover up any mistakes I might be making and I don’t wanna click the wrong things. But this last time, the online filing was easy and I submitted my claim online because I didn’t wanna wait on the phone. AHS got me a contractor very quickly. I submitted the claim late at night and the next morning I got a phone call from the contractor, Tech-tonics AC and Appliance Repair, and they said they could come. They were there in the afternoon. Two techs came and talked to me about my dryer, and they were friendly. They got the job done and they fixed the dryer.
Also, I got a new stove a little while ago through AHS and that was great. But I forgot to take all of the pots and pans out of the bottom of my old stove. I called the contractor that American Home Shield had sent out for that claim an hour after the techs left and I told them that if they were in Tulsa, I’d come and get my pots and pans. But they never got back to me and that is a bummer. I would have been fine if they had said that they were sorry and my stove is long gone or if I had gotten any response from them. And even though I had a recording of it, he still couldn't tell where it was coming from. So when he was going to leave because it wouldn't make the noise, I finally told him that I knew it was coming from this particular spot. He took the motor out and that was bad and it was the one making the noise.
He ordered another motor and a couple of weeks later, he came and replaced it. It took him about 30 seconds to replace it and that was it. If someone would ask about AHS, I would tell them that they're one of the best warranties in the business.

I am extremely disappointed with our American Home Shield home warranty. We had the Pick 10 plan that included HVAC because our system was 24 years old. In May, our system stopped blowing cold air and we put in an AHS service request. The service contractor said that the system needed to be replaced but that AHS would require Freon replacement at least three times before they would authorize a replacement. With the price of Freon, that would cost us approximately $1000 before AHS would even consider replacing the system.
We had two other companies look at the system and both said we needed a replacement. They also mentioned that replacing the Freon would only allow for 2-3 weeks of cool air before the Freon needed to be replaced again due to a leaky Freon tube, meaning we would have hot air blowing during the hot summer months and would have to wait a couple days each time we needed the Freon replaced due to contractor scheduling. We opted to get the entire system replaced instead of replacing the Freon three times costing us $1000 with no guarantee that AHS would eventually replace the system. After we had the system replaced, AHS refused to pay any of the system replacement cost even though the system was 24 years old. I wholeheartedly do not recommend AHS because they are unwilling to replace HVACs when replacement is obvious.

The difference in the price they extend to a realtor when you’re buying the home and what you have to pay after the fact is a lot despairing. The first time we had someone come out and look at the dishwasher, the contractor that AHS sent said, "this is a problem." But then, it still wasn't running great. He didn't do a whole cycle so he didn't realize that the drying element, the blower was broken. We ended up paying for a second person to come out three months later and tell us that it was older and we have to run our hot water and get a dishwasher cleaner which he charged us for but it didn't do anything better. So, it would be nice if we could get the money back if the technician didn't fix the problem. But I don't have complaints 'cause we got a new dishwasher.
When we got approval to replace our dishwasher and our wall oven, they showed us options on what we could get and then they said if that wasn't what I liked and if I wanted to get my own, I could just submit the receipt and they'd reimburse me X dollars or whatever it was. I sent that on the 28th of August. It's looking about two weeks now, but I didn't get a response that it was even received or that it's been looked at. So that's a little concerning. But the process and mailing time generally takes 10 to 14 days and we're still within that timeframe. Maybe next week, if I don't hear anything, I'll give a call and make sure that they got everything that they need.
Our AC had a thermostat issue recently as well. It was one of the original analogs and there was no real way of telling what it was actually set at. If we set it at 85, that made the house comfortable which obviously wasn't right. The AC guys were fantastic and everyone was really good. They helped answer some questions 'cause we wanted to eventually get an Eco V but we weren't sure if we had the right setup. He actually took me downstairs and showed me all the wiring stuff and how we would be able to upgrade. They said that we didn't have to spend the money to call them back to install something different that we were fully capable of doing it on our own. It was really nice to have someone be like, "Don't waste your money," because we've only had the house for six months and we've been constantly spending money on stuff that it turns out we don't actually need.

It was Labor Day weekend and I felt like I was in crisis mode. So I was really impressed that they came out in timely manner and that he had the part to get it fixed. They replaced the capacitor on the outside unit.
I still have concerns about that unit because it was fixed at 2 in the afternoon and the upstairs area had warmed up to 80 degrees. At 10 at night, it was still sitting at 78 degrees. I had the service person out again the next day and he said that he had tested the the Freon and that everything read right. He configured out why it had not adjusted. And then, throughout the day, it doesn’t seem to hold the temperature so I still have a problem. Also, maybe my problem falls outside of his knowledge base. He was checking the 10 things that you’re supposed to check and he couldn’t explain why the unit wasn’t cooling off the way it should. He said if I wanna have it looked at again, I should call American Home Shield and see if they can assign a different contractor or a different service provider because it would be a good idea to get a different set of eyes on this issue. That was where he left it with me.
But I was happy with the timeliness of the service. They got me scheduled right away in the timeframe that worked for me and they were really responsive and personable. They explained things to me as well. If anyone asks about AHS, I would tell them to get a policy. I don't like the $75 every time somebody comes out because that's a big deal. So, I called AHS and they sent somebody out, looked at it and said, "No there's nothing wrong with it." They didn't do anything but I still got charged $75 for that. And the sink was still leaking. The guy that came out and fixed the leak under the sink didn't turn the water on to check it so he had to come back out. It's frustrating having to get people to come back and forth, in and out.
For the most part, my experience with American Home Shield has been okay. But I don't like it when people don't show up and that happened. When I called AHS to get someone else to come out here, they'd say, "Well, we have to call them and find out why they didn't come." It took a lot longer to get stuff done because of all that. It's like hit and miss. But as far as AHS getting me hooked up to whoever I need to be, that has worked out good. Every time I've called and had an issue, AHS took care of it and I didn't have to worry about it. It's been easy on that end.

The air-conditioner was making a noise. I didn't know what it could be, so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. It was easy. I just gave them the problem and then they contacted me to let me know who was coming. There were two different companies that came to fix the AC. Their techs were very nice, courteous and informative. They also answered all my questions.
The first time, there was nothing wrong. There was just a piece of paper stuck on the fan and the tech removed it. And then the second time, it was leaking water and it went into my bedroom. Some of the pipes were coming loose and when the tech came, he tightened them and put something on them so they wouldn't come apart. He did a very good job and everything has been working well since. I have recommended American Home Shield to others.

I have been with American Home Shield for years. Recently, my washing machine was not working correctly. It would stop and reset itself, and it kept doing that. When the first contractor came out, he said he couldn’t do anything because it was automated and they were sensitive. So I called AHS again and they could not do anything about it because it was no longer under warranty. However, they're coming back because they have to do something. Other than that, I have a great rapport with their customer service. They’re professionals, unlike this particular contractor that we have an amount of problem with. I’ve referred my friends to American Home Shield.

I needed some new stuff in one of my bathroom tanks. I called American Home Shield and they were timely, efficient, and responsive. The people I spoke with were polite, considerate, and helpful as well. The guy who came in was excellent. He saw what needed to be done and he did it. When I call AHS, the contractors come out here and fix the issue. Having AHS keeps me from having to pay big lump sums of money out of my pocket. Also, they've gone to where I don't have to write them a check and they just take the payment out of my account.

The American Home Shield reps are really good people and they take care of the problem when I submit claims. I do it over the phone and the customer service is fantastic. They send someone out in a day or two. They have to contact the contractor and the contractor contacts me to get a good date and time. When I had a plumbing issue, a technician from Accurate Plumbing came and went right straight to the problem and fixed it. However, American Home Shield is trying to collect on the $75 co-pay that’s already been paid.
We've never had a problem with American Home Shield other than this one time. I've got the canceled check and everything else shows that it was deposited and the money was given to Accurate. But American Home Shield won't take a copy of the canceled check as proof and they have to hear it directly from the contractor, which I think is wrong. American Home Shield can't get in touched with them and I can't get hold of the contractor also as he won't answer the phone. All that we get is a recording. Still, American Home Shield has been great to us.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has always been super easy. I do it online most of the time. But this last round, I did it on the phone 'cause the last time I did it online, there was a duplicate disaster. It took me about a year to get that straightened and I'm not even sure if that's fixed yet. I had a claim for my air conditioner and the contractor that came out was the same company AHS sent out in January for my heater. I wasn’t thrilled with them in January when they came. My husband's a former air conditioner guy and he had already diagnosed the problem. He just was waiting for the contractor to repair it and unfortunately, he went out of town and gave me the instructions to tell them. When the contractors came, they tried everything but what he said it was and it took four visits before one of the contractors that came out told me what my husband had said.
So, we went five days with trouble when it could have been one. While I understand that they gotta go through their process and we appreciate their process, it's frustrating as the homeowner. In closing, this is the third house in 15 years we've had with American Home Shield and it's an insurance type program that unfortunately, ties your hand. If you're paying for it yourself, somebody's gonna come right away. So, if you're waiting for your home warranty, you're looking at waiting a little while but that's okay. That's the choice we make. Given our experience, we've recommended AHS to many people.

Recently, my wife submitted a claim online to AHS for our garbage disposal. It was repaired and since then it has been fine. However, we found that it generally takes a little while to get a contractor out to our location. Still, once they’re around, they’re able to resolve the issue that we have. If someone has an older home, getting AHS' warranty is a really good idea.

The American Home Shield online claims application is great and super easy to use. I really liked it. The air conditioner wasn’t cooling properly and something was wrong with the thermostat so I filed a claim. Other than the fact that the contractors had to come out a couple of times since they didn’t solve the problem the first time, I’ve been really happy with it.

The water in my dishwasher wasn't draining out. I tried calling in the claim but American Home Shield had me on hold for 30 minutes. So, I finally went online and did it. The online claims process was fine except that it didn't tell me that it was a recall. The claim was for a call back or to reevaluate the work that was done before. But online, it just said someone to come back out and re-inspect, and none of that ever worked yet. So the terminology used online is very misleading. Also, AHS should stop sending me all of their advertisement because I'm already a member.
After filing online, the contractor called me the next day and they were wonderful. The technician looked at the dishwasher and he said he was perplexed, but he thought the problem was probably the pump. He told me to check and see if the dishwasher filled up with water and call him if it did, which it didn't. But he still thought the pump went out so they ordered me another one.

I had an issue with my washer and dryer. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent the contractor who has always been great whenever he came out. Since the repair, the dryer works fantastic but my washer is completely jacked up. About a week ago when the tech was here, he told us that the problem was because there are some suds in the drum and the sensor was reading that. But when I went to do what he said to help remedy that situation, the washer threw two other codes. When I talked to him, he told me that that sounded like the motherboard was going out and that I had to contact American Home Shield to get the process started for its replacement.
And that is what I'm doing now but, it seems like there is a loss of translation right at the moment. I'm waiting for them to call me and we can get this figured out faster. I'm also still waiting for the tech to come back out, look at the washer, and put in the notes that the unit is inoperable or cannot be fixed. It needs to be replaced. I don’t like to spend 15 bucks to wash my clothes and dry them. So my problem is I have to wait for the tech to be unbusy, so I can set on when I'm gonna be able to get a new washer. Other than that, every time I use American Home Shield, they are great. And when my contract ends, I'll pay for another year. I've also told people to get a warranty from them. It is worth it.

I switched to American Home Shield from First American for the same reason that American Home Shield tried to do to us today 9/8/2018. I was assured that when I signed up for American Home Shield that they would only send top quality companies to our home to resolve issues (lie #1). Our A/C has gone out so I got on the American website and requested service, upon receiving the email confirmation I researched the company that was scheduled to come out. They were to send the least not top quality according to the BBB and were in fact a ripoff from what I was reading.
I contacted American to resolve the issue and request for a different contractor to come out, no matter of explaining would get through to the very nice lady (Lawanna) on the other end of the phone. She explained that there were simply no other contractors that could do the job in my area. Now Mind you I am in Canton, GA and the contractor was from Lawrenceville over an hour away (lie #2). So I picked up the phone, after cancelling the service request and my contract with them to get my A/C fixed by a good company and lo and behold it will be fixed tomorrow but wait no one was available hmmm. Bottom line up front DO NOT use this company. I would go with Choice Home Warranty, the price per month is cheaper, the service fees are lower and the best kicker of all I can use my own contractors.
Hello, Jimmy. We apologize that you had issues with getting your service request handled by a local company. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to discuss your concerns.

Contacted AHS 3 days ago (Thu) about no hot water, the first contractor didn't contact me, I called them to learn it would be 2 weeks to get it LOOKED at. So I called AHS for another contractor, which took 10 min to find a "maybe" but out of state... He didn't call and I couldn't get to anyone (left a message). Called AHS 3rd time (was told on 2nd call that if he is not able to get there today, I should call back to ask AHS for "outside authorization" - Gail said this who, doesn't work again until Monday)... Tried that today and after 20 min. and being put on hold by agent, was disconnected. Then called back... 12 min got agent, told I need to wait 48 hours for 2nd contractor to reach me.
I requested to talk to a supervisor and was told "they will just tell you what I already told you" and "you will probably have to wait a while as we are receiving a high volume of calls". I said I'd wait so I can get someone else to explain when I'm able to get anyone ASAP (since I already got 2 different stories from 2 agents). So she ("E.J.") put me on hold. She checked in with me after 3 min on hold (about 24 min. into whole call), then I said, "Yes, I'd like to wait for a supervisor..." Then guess what happened... (see other bad reviews for a hint!)... Yes, I was disconnected at 30 min. (2nd time today.)
I'm sure a "supervisor" will reply to this and tell me "how sorry they are for my experience" and to "contact them to clear things up"! Better yet, AHS supervisor, look up my email from my 2 calls today around 4pm (Maumee, OH) and EMAIL me directly with your direct phone number or how to reach you rather than posting a meaningless response here that only requires me to call back again to be put on hold and/or disconnected. For a company with "award winning" reviews and reputation, this is far from those experiences! If it was for a dishwasher or microwave, I understand a little delay... but hot water is pretty important in most households! Please help me get this fixed ASAP!!! FYI - on BBB, AHS has over 90 complaints within the last 9 days... (since Aug 31, 2018). That about says it all.
Good morning C,
I understand your concerns and frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your water heater repaired. Also, I understand your request to speak with a supervisor and the delay. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I am fed up with AHS! I called two times last night because my A/C is out and it was almost 90 degrees in the house. The first time I called they said they were going through a system update and took my information and issue with a promise to call me back within 30 minutes to expedite my request. Two hours later I call back and immediately, without any sort of greeting or questions, am told there is system is updating and I should call back tomorrow - effectively trying to end the call without me saying ONE word! I made that individual take my information too. I asked if I could put in an expedited request online, and they said now it had to be on the phone but he too was noting it needed to be expedited. I was again promised a callback. I called again today, THIRD CALL, and was told they could not expedite my request because it was not over 105 outside.
It's "only" projected to be 93. I pointed out that if it is 93 outside it will be hotter in my house and I had kids, but she said no there was nothing they could do. This was frustrating because if I had known that I could have schedule my service request online after the first call. I asked to speak to a manager, she asked why I needed to speak to a manager so for the third time in just my phone call with her I told her about my frustrations with the service I had received. She kept trying to stop me from talking to a supervisor or manager and when I insisted she put me on hold and within in seconds they being put on hold they ended the call. Yes they hung up on me. The website says they want our feedback, but it's only information to put in a service request and a link to their FAQ. As others have said, this is the worst customer service I have received. I would encourage no one to do business with them. I will not be continuing my contract. They are a joke!

I've had AHS Warranty off and on for more than a decade, they've never been very good, but if you have the time -- and I mean hours and hours -- to deal with their manufactured red tape, it's still financially worth it. The company uses a lot of tactics to avoid paying out for anything beyond a minor repair. I've had AHS officials try to get a repairman to lie about things so they could argue it was a pre-existing condition, I've dealt with hour-long phone calls, constant disconnects and terrible customer service, I've even had repairs done improperly. The key is to be persistent and never allow them to push you around. Ultimately, I've had two AC units fixed or replaced, a water heater and other minor things. It's a terrible, terrible service, that still pays for itself.

Our AC unit stopped cooling the Friday before Labour Day. The first contractor came out the following Tuesday, diagnosed the problem and turned it into AHS. After never hearing from them we made several phone calls that Thursday, a 30 minute hold or more on each call. We find out that we have to pay $1,765 out of our pocket to put a bandaid on the unit. $840 for Freon, $275 for duct modification, and $525 for some code permits, $1”0 service call. While we knew about the Freon because it’s in the contract, the other costs are part of the installation.
We called back for a cash out option because we thought for that amount of money we could get a new more efficient non Freon unit. The customer service person laughed at us on the phone. Yes she laughed at us and told us they would pay us $800, what they were paying for the new HVAC unit. All three specialists that accessed the situation said that AHS is known to be deceptive.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I contacted American Home Shield over the phone to have them send someone out for my refrigerator and their reps were very helpful and respectful. The contractors were good people, too. They were very pleasant. The refrigerator was working well after the first time they came out to fix it. However, they had to come back because I had another issue going on with it. Now, the refrigerator is fine. It was a great experience. American Home Shield is usually very timely and I would recommend them.

My dishwasher was filling up with water and I filed a claim for it. American Home Shield charged a $75 fee for a contractor to come out and look at the problem, which is paid not to the person who comes out but directly to the company. The contractor that they sent out was pretty good. He found that a small screw had fallen out from somewhere and it was clogging the drain. He fixed it very efficiently and I haven’t had a problem with it since.
A couple of years ago though, a technician did not do a very good job with our air conditioner. At that time, it was one unit but it has three zones and the technician said that there was only one zone and that he couldn’t repair the AC because it wasn’t put in right originally. He also said that the problem was the compressor but when we called someone else, we found that the problem was the capacitor, so the technician’s diagnosis was wrong. But most of the time, we’ve gotten good service from AHS. One time, we had a gas stove that wasn’t working well and they decided that it needed to be replaced. We had to pay part of the cost of the stove but that wasn’t a problem.

American Home Shield works great. We usually submit our claims with them over the phone and everything has been great with the reps. So far, the contractors that AHS has sent have been good too. We recently submitted a claim when we had a plumbing issue and the contractor, Cook Construction, came out. They completed their mission and they did a great job. AHS is a great company and I would absolutely recommend them.

The AC unit stopped working overnight. I filled out American Home Shield's form online to submit the claim and sent it off. Then, they emailed back saying they would get somebody to contact me and they did. Air Service of Colorado Springs came along and looked at the unit. They said they could fix it and it has been wonderful since they came out. Everything worked as it should have.
