We have a rental that is being rented by our daughter and her roommate. Our daughter called and said the toilet was slow to refill and there was a whistling in the line. I went to American Home Shield's website and submitted a claim. I got a confirmation back quickly that the contractor had been notified and that we would get a call when they were coming, which we did. The contractors came within a few days and from what my daughter told me, everything was fine. When we purchased the house, a year’s warranty came with it, which was great and helpful. We got none of the warranty information on the concrete, siding, shingles, and appliances, so it was a good plan for the seller to provide that. Having a warranty for the rental is valuable and after the second year, we decided to renew it for another year.

The toilet was overflowing and not flushing properly so I called it in to American Home Shield. The contractor said they fixed it but the problem is still there. They weren't the best but they were okay. AHS could choose better contractors. Their choice of contractors are not optimal.

I've had good experiences with American Home Shield. Once, our refrigerator was clogged. It wasn't draining the way it should and it was leaking all over the floor. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and they contacted a company to set up the appointment. The representatives from AHS are always prompt about getting me hooked up with someone to get an issue fixed. It's really nice. They also pick good contractors and so far, my experience with the people they've sent out have been very good. Aside from the refrigerator claim, I also had a garbage disposal claim and both times, the techs who came were very professional and timely. They explained what the problem was and what they were gonna do to fix it. Then, if I asked questions, they answered them. They got the job done and the units worked after the service. The guy who pulled out my refrigerator had to actually cut the tubing. I hope that fixes the problem permanently.

I had no air conditioning and it was 90 degrees in my house. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Navigating the website was simple and I got a contractor within 24 hours, but I had to wait for days before the tech could come out and fix it as the company didn’t have enough techs and they were backlogged. In fact, the tech who came out was on vacation at the time that I had submitted the claim. He was respectful, though, and had the air conditioner fixed within 30 minutes. Since the repair, it's been working fine. It's been fabulous with AHS. They're well worth having.
We are happy to know that your a/c is running properly as I know how hot it can get in the South. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience William. Have an amazing week.

Before, if I needed to have American Home Shield's service, I would just call them and tell them what the issue was and they would say that they were gonna call someone out to meet that problem. When they get in touch with that particular person, they would call me and set up a scheduled date. Then, if I'm available at the time, I would tell them when they could send someone out. At that particular time, years ago, we would pay the person that came out and the same amount stays, but they changed their price over the years.
Nowadays, I have to pay American Home Shield and once I tell them whatever the issue is, they tell me that it will cost whatever it is that they charge. They also wanna know if I want to pay or if I would rather pay later after the person is there. They have a bank part that I keep on file, so they would submit whatever it is that needed to be done and they would submit for their payment. They have been very good and I hope to be able to keep them as times go on.
There were several things going on at the same time and the washing machine was one of the problems that I had. The toilet was another issue, and their contractor, Amtech was very good and they did the job that needed to be done. If there is a problem that they can't meet, they go back and tell their boss whatever the issue is. Then, they will get in touch with American Home Shield to see if the contract that I have with them will cover the problem and, if they do, the fellow will come back right out and resolve the problem. AHS do what they can. I've been with them for years and I know how they work. They are very good on trying to resolve whatever my issue may be.

The ice maker on the refrigerator went out and we filed a claim with American Home Shield for that issue. It took just a couple of days for the contractor to come out. The tech was very thorough. He replaced the ice maker and that has made things better in our home. We also had a dryer that went bad and my wife took care of submitting the claim for that issue with AHS. This is our first year with AHS and they have been very easy to work with so far. They have been very prompt in getting us service when we needed it and they have also followed through on everything that they said they would do.
Hi Don,
We really appreciate you taking the time to share your rating with us. We look forward to servicing you again soon.

My experience with American Home Shield has been very poor overall. I normally submit claims over the phone and every time I call, it takes me an hour to get through to somebody. They've also sent out a couple of bad vendors. One contractor came back three times and did a terrible job. Finally, somebody else came out and fixed the problem. The last guy who came out was fine though. It was for a plumbing need and the problem was solved. However, these AHS people keep bugging me and sending me emails that I owe $75 for the call when we had already paid that. I talked with the contractor and he said that he was paid. I also got the check number and the check was cashed. So I'm really perturbed. I got a copy of a cancelled check from the plumber and a copy of a cancelled check that I paid American Home Shield for nuisance purposes. It's been a hassle and I'm an unhappy customer.

These morons decide to shut down their system to do software updates in the middle of the day. No work orders can go through at that time. I’ve been on the phone six times in the last two days, each with a half hour hold time, to get a technician to my house. Still, nothing. The company they said was coming today won’t come because it’s not “an emergency.” This is an evil company staffed by incompetent morons who should be sterilized for the good of humanity.
Good morning Heywood,
I understand your concerns with the hold time you have experienced to speak with a customer service representative. I would be glad to speak with you and get your issues resolved.

AHS needs to hire more personnel to answer the phones. Every time I call I have to wait at least an hour to speak to a representative. I only time I got through in 30 minutes, the call was disconnected while the rep was checking on my issue. She didn’t bother to call me back, I had to call and wait another 30 minutes. If you can request service online that is the best bet but if you try to request a follow up to the same issue, you have to call them, you cannot do it online. Very frustrating, I’m looking for any company, AHS is not worth the hassle.

I will explain the situation in a factual manner with no emotion. I placed a service request to AHS, keep in mind I have been a customer for 10 years and have utilized a total of (three) 3 service calls, one which I ended up paying for the Freon myself, $6000 in monthly charges. The service call was for an AC unit that will not blow cold, in Alabama, in September (90 all week). I put the call in on Tuesday, company showed the next day without a tall enough ladder. I had previously asked AHS to note in my file that the condenser is on the roof of a second story building and a 50-60’ ladder is required (as we dealt with this same situation previously).
I called AHS as the tech left and spoke with an awesome CSR! AHS gave the order to a company who claimed to have the correct equipment. I was told by the CSR that I was responsible for setting up an appointment and she gave me the number. I called immediately and was told by the new company that it would not be until Friday. I told them that was not ok, due to the temperature and immediately called AHS back. A new, seemingly helpful, CSR listened to me and called the company to confirm my story, and the company told her they were coming the next day, Thursday. I called and left four voicemails and the company refused to call me back. I had my husband call from a different number and they answered immediately. They told him they would be there 5:45, so we waited.
At 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30 my husband texted and they said just a little longer... They never showed. They came Friday at 8:30 (today) without the ladder. They told my husband they would be back at 1:30 and never showed. They have told us they will meet us tomorrow at 11:00. In the meantime I have called AHS, put on hold multiple times for an hour and they refused to dispatch a new company. I asked to speak with a supervisor and after being on hold 30 minutes I was told one would call me back. In summary, AC unit does not work, companies dispatched did not have correct equipment and it is now going to be day five before someone looks at it, if they show. This is how a loyal, 10 year customer, three previous calls, is treated.
Good morning Laura,
Your patronage to AHS over the past 10 years is greatly appreciated. However, I understand your concerns with the delay in service to have the air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you regarding the issues at hand and assist to get them resolved.

When I got the house, I used the washing machine and it would spin. Then, it started leaking, so the tech came out to fix whatever it was for it to stop leaking. The machine is not leaking anymore, but now, when we put the laundry in, it doesn’t spin and would start making a noise that sounds like it's about to burn out. Then, it stops for a good 15 minutes and would crank back. Then, when it starts spinning again, it would stop. So, I don’t consider that being an operable machine even though the tech came out and ran without any clothes or sheets in it, and that was what I was telling him. So, on the same day that they came out, I washed some clothes and stayed down in the basement the whole time to see how it was gonna operate. It did the same thing. So, the machine is still sitting on the side because we still have to purchase a new washer.
Each and every time they come out, they charged me when they said they didn’t find anything and just left the machine not working properly. I should not be billed for something like that because the machine isn’t working. AHS said that if they have to send someone else out here for third opinion, the contractor has to do the full running up of the machine. So, it had to be a loaded with clothes for them to know that the machine is not working. The tech did it and said that everything was cool. I said I wanted to run it with a blanket in there, so when I came back, the wet blanket was sitting on top of the washing machine, not even rung out. I asked why it was up there and he just said it was working.
So, I’m not gonna do another claim on it because it’s not worth paying around a hundred dollars for a machine that’s only around 400 dollars. Overall, I’m not satisfied with them, not because I don’t believe American Home Shield is not doing their job or not doing the service, but because of the people they send in to do the job who are not being honest about fixing stuff which does not give AHS a good look.
Good afternoon Maurice,
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience to have your washer machine repaired and the delay in service. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the issues resolved.

My ground fault switch wouldn't reset so I bought a new one. I didn't know how to do it and I had to call American Home Shield so that the electricity could get outside my house again. Their contractor was a great kid. I'm so old and with these new things I couldn't even plug things in. I didn't know there is a child protection plug and the contractor told me about it. I've tried several times and it wouldn't go in. The contractor said, "Watch," and he just pushed it in. A couple of days later, I went to put another one in there and I had one hell of a time. So I said, "Well, I'm gonna push." So I pushed and it went right in.
It has rained and everything and my switch has been working just like it's supposed to. However, their price is going up every year and I keep seeing this advertisement on television for another insurance company that's cheaper for the same thing. So if their price keeps going up, I might have to switch. But all my experiences with AHS were good. I've got seven kids and I recommended it to all of them.

My water heater was dripping a lot of water and it wasn’t going down the drain as the drain was clogged. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for that and I asked for someone to come and take a look at it. They told me they could only take care of the water heater but they couldn't do anything with the clogged drain pipes. Then they put in a new water heater in and got it fixed.
Typically, my interactions with the AHS reps have been fine. But sometimes, I feel like they're rushing to get off the phone. I understand they're busy but sometimes, not all my questions get answered. On the other hand, the contractors that have been sent out here have been good. When they were here, they made sure that I was right there with them in case they had any questions or I had any questions on what they were doing. They also told me everything that they were doing before they got it done. All in all, AHS is a good thing to have around and I would recommend them to others.

American Home Shield has a very good website. I didn't have any problems with it when I submitted a claim for my garage doors that were not opening. The technician that they sent out was very good and he pointed out that the spring broke and why it was not working. He fixed the garage doors and both are up and running ever since. So far, American Home Shield has been good. Plus, their cost is very effective.

The sink in the kitchen had a stoppage and I called American Home Shield to have plumbing work done. The rep I spoke to was very good. Then by the time the plumber got here, we already cleared it up and it went through. It was good that he didn't have to run the snake, but I didn’t call back and cancel, so I had to pay. But he was okay. All he said is to put bleach and cold water and if it doesn’t clear up in four days, then give him a call. But last month, we had a claim with AHS for the air conditioning and they repaired a coil on the unit, but they said that some part was not covered. So they made me pay $1,600 out of pocket for it, and I don’t even know what they did. I'm not very happy about that, but that's the rule that they have.

I had American Home Shield two years back and one time, I had a problem with the air conditioner when there was condensation. It could be the drain pipe of the water onto the plumbing of the house. This was connected to the upstairs bathroom and I was getting water in my basin. I called American Home Shield and a contractor came and looked at the problem. The first guy said he could not do anything and he left. He didn’t leave the house in a very good way because they cut a hole into the drywall to check. That was okay though because without that, one could not do anything. Then somebody else came, another joker who didn't know anything. He flooded the place and upstairs, he pulled down the insulation and he couldn’t figure out the problem.
I called American Home Shield and the third guy came. He used the snake but he couldn’t fix the problem either. He said the snake turned the wrong way at the junction, and they also left. I got very tired of the technicians but I knew some people at TradeMark Engineering who were very good although they were expensive. I called them and a guy came. He knew what the problem was and in three quarters of an hour, he fixed it. My $350 extra went out of my pocket when nothing should have gone. At least the house was fine, but then I cancelled the warranty with American Home Shield.
Cancelling the contract was like pulling out your own teeth. I called them and once, they kept me on hold for 1 hour and 15 minutes before I could get anybody to talk to, which was very bad. Those were all deceptive techniques of marketing, so I waited and finally, I got somebody. It was really difficult to cancel, but somehow I managed. But if I sell the house and I move off and it’s gonna be difficult to cancel the contract, then I have no other recourse but to go to the bank and say, “Don’t let this money go,” because it's on auto-pay.
I decided to go back to American Home Shield, however, now that I live in Dallas and I'm remote from the house where my tenants are. They could get into trouble and they would call me at midnight, so I got American Home Shield warranty for them. The first $75 is theirs and when the cost becomes too big, it will be mine. My tenant called me one time and said there was some problem with the bathroom faucet. I told them to call American Home Shield and they did. Then SWG Plumbing Services came and they did the work on the same day. I knew that the service call would be $75 and the tenant just moved in, so it should not be their problem. So I mailed the check but inadvertently, instead of sending it to the American Home Shield office in Tennessee , I sent it to an address in Pennsylvania. I got this address from the top of my previous invoice, so I thought the check would reach the people at American Home Shield.
My tenant then sent me an email saying that my payment was overdue, and it was not even two weeks. Apparently, the check did not reach American Home Shield and nobody knew what happened to it. I didn't want to be a bad customer, so instead of creating any further difficulty on American Home Shield, I sent another check out to their Tennessee office for the same amount, $75. But then I saw on my bank statement that the first check was cashed and so was the second check. I called American Home Shield and the guy who spoke to me didn't know what happened in the accounting. When they saw the check for that work order and that it was already paid, they should have not cashed the other check.
I called American Home Shield again and asked to get my money back. I was put on hold and I had to talk to some people, but I didn’t mind waiting. Over half an hour later and after being on hold two times, the rep came back twice and profusely apologized. He said American Home Shield will send me the check. It would go out from their office in two to three weeks. When I asked why so late, he said they had to send the request and it would go to another department. I understand that it is difficult to get the money out, so I'm waiting for the check to come. This is probably the third week. They said the approval was done but the check will be sent by another department. American Home Shield was okay, but sometimes they could be better and they could trust their clients a bit more. Therefore, I would tell a friend or family member not to go to American Home Shield just because I told them so. They should check around and then decide.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is usually not too big of a problem, but sometimes the timeline of getting someone to come and do the actual work can be one day to two weeks. With my microwave, it took them almost a month to get it totally repaired because they had to come three times. The first time they came, they didn’t have the right part or they may replace the unit instead of repairing it. The person to replace it called and told me that I would pay so much and that they would pay the rest, or the repair person would come back and repair it. However, AHS didn’t facilitate that information to the repair person, so I had to call back a week later. They said that the ticket was closed and they didn’t realize it. That was a little frustrating, but once they finally got all the parts that they needed, they got my microwave repaired.
The contractors were fine, although they didn’t have what they needed and in order to do anything, they had to keep calling AHS to get approval. The second guy that came said that he gotta call because the part was over the limit, although the parts weren’t even $20. He said that they couldn’t get anything done without getting approval, but for less than $20, I had to wait because they had to get in touch with AHS, then they had to send it to the assigned person. It was ludicrous, but the unit has been working fine since the repair.
Another issue is AHS had my daughter’s mailing address as my mailing address. I called them and asked why they have my daughter’s mailing address as my mailing address when I’ve been with the company far longer than she has been. The rep couldn’t explain why there was a mix-up. I asked what they had on file and he repeated my daughter’s address. I said it wasn't my address, so he looked again and he said my home address as the service address. I told him that it is also the mailing address and had it not gone to my daughter’s house, I wouldn’t have known that I have an increase in my fees. I told them that I needed for them to send me an updated contract with my correct mailing address. I got my new paperwork from American Home Shield, but it was from last year’s contract, not my current contract showing that my rates have gone up. I’m frustrated right now.
Still, the service is excellent because of the price of repairs and when I need work done, once the contractors are contracted to me, the service is done correctly. However, they can also be a bit more timely in setting appointments with the different contractors or they may need to get more contractors. When critical categories are there, it needs to be a bit more timely.

The air conditioner in my rental house went out. I called American Home Shield and told them that it was not working. It was when it was super hot here, and from what I was told, I would have some response back within 48 hours. But there was no response back. I called multiple times. Finally, they told me that the reason for the delay was that they could not find an HVAC person in the Gig Harbor area that they could use. It was hard to believe because Gig Harbor's a larger place.
I told them that there is a Gig Harbor air conditioning and heating. I also asked why I couldn't use them, and they said that the company is not on their list. The house was listed "For Sale" at that point, so all the times that we were having showings, the house was horribly hot. Finally after multiple phone calls, I was able to get an authorization to get my own HVAC company because they couldn't find anybody. And so I had to pay for it myself and then submit a claim to them. They gave me a pre-authorization form that said that if I paid for it, they would pay me back. That was fine. A gentleman was out here the next day and had the unit up and running.
I submitted my claim and called them to find out if the check had been sent. They said that it had been sent on September 4th to the Gig Harbor address where the house was located and not where I live. I asked why they would send it to a rental house, and they said they had to. The rule is they have to send the check to the place that the repair was made. I told them that it didn’t make any sense because that's a rental house. The rep talked to multiple people and it was the rule and it was sent out and I was in Arizona at the time, so I had to try to figure out if I could find somebody who could go to the mailbox there and get it because it's a locked mailbox and it's a house that's listed on the market.
I got a call back from someone that confirmed that she had gone a step further and they had stopped payment on the check that was sent to the Gig Harbor house and they were reissuing a check that would be delivered to my residence. When I got home last Saturday, the original check that was issued on the 4th was sent to my home address. It was never sent to the Gig Harbor address. They've already stopped payment on it and now, I have to wait for another one. I was so frustrated because it should not have been this hard. The first part of this whole thing started in the beginning of August and it was close to 14 days before I could even work through the system to get an authorization to hire our own HVAC people to get in here.
And then the original guy that we hired said that he had presented them three times with the cost of what it would be, so that I could get my authorization. Every time I called to confirm it, AHS said they never got it. I told them that the guy that we hired was sending it to them through the fax number that they gave me to send it to. The guy sent it to me as well. I sent it to them from my computer and then I got a confirmation back that they received it. The guy that we hired said, "Leslie, this is exactly why we stopped working with American Home Shield. We had jobs that we did that they never even paid us on and or fought us for an extremely long time to get paid on." He also told me that they don’t work with them anymore.
It always seemed that whenever I try to put forth a claim through AHS, the people that they work with who are on the list of providers always seem to have a worse taste in their mouth for AHS than what I would have because of the way that they either treat them or pay them or interact with the service providers. Therefore, it makes it somewhat difficult as a person who has the policy to feel that I'm getting good work done or a quality repair because they tend to be not on the highest list with AHS. Sometimes getting the work done and approved is not as easy as it's perceived to be when you initially sign up for the policy. Each person that you have to speak with throughout the processes need to be able to read their notes better on previous phone calls or interactions they've had with people. Still, AHS has worked for us. We have two rental houses and a pinery that we have it with. The service is good and it's a comfort to have it.

Each claim I've had with American Home Shield has been magnificent. I call them when I submit a claim, and right after I hung up, they would text me to let me know who the person is gonna be taking care of my problem. That person usually texts me, letting me know when they're coming. That process is good and quick. The contractor who I had last the last time was very professional. It was a plumbing problem, where there was a water leak and it was annoying. But the contractor was good and the problem was taken care of. I always recommend AHS.

Had AHS for past 2 years, and have not submitted any service request. The first issue we had was with the AC, we had our evaporator coil broken. The coil itself was under warranty, so the parts was free. But for them to come and fix it they said they will not cover other supplies and we have to pay $1200. When I got a quote from a different AC company they quoted only $900 (without the warranty). This is not what I expect from a warranty company, very disappointed.

Freezer stops working on a Sat. night, realize fridge is not also working by Sunday AM. Call American Home Shield. They send out a repairman out 3 days later on Wednesday. American Home Shield doesn't order a replacement inverter that week (they wait a week - until Tues of the following week)! They must have ordered part "ground" because it is another week before the part comes in and they schedule repairman on following Friday. So far 3 WEEKS WITHOUT A FRIDGE OR FREEZER. Repairman installs new inverter Friday. Anxiously wait 24 hr period for fridge to cool. Freezer works now, but still no fridge.
Repairman comes back on Tues (WEEK #4 NO FRIDGE) & is not allowed to order another new part until the end of the work day, so American Home Shield maybe orders part on Wed (and probably "ground" delivery again). Maybe by week 5 or 6 we will have a fully functioning fridge, or not. In the meantime, we have spent well over $200 on ice for coolers, thrown out $'s frozen-thawed food and $'s of condiments. Repairman American Home Shield hired to do the work is also frustrated with them. Definitely shopping for a new company. Feel like they American Home Shield should cover the cost of all the ice we purchased and they should be ordering replacement parts "next day air."
Updated on 09/28/2018: Wrapping up week 5, still with a non-working fridge thanks to American Home Shield's lack of response & slowest service ever. They are probably ordering a replacement part ground or snail mail in order to save themselves a couple of dollars. In the meantime we continue purchasing blocks of ice, take out food, & throwing more food away. Funny how they responded to my 1st complaint here offering to resolve my issues, but did not leave a contact name or number to reach them!
Updated on 09/28/2018: Just told by American Home Shield it will be at the end of 6 weeks of waiting, before they can install 2nd replacement part. 6 WEEKS, without use of refrigerator is totally unacceptable, don't you think?
Updated on 10/06/2018: Going on 7 weeks without a functioning fridge. Week 1: Schedule repairman to look at freezer & fridge stopped working. Week #2: Waiting for part to get ordered. Week #3: Wait for part to come in. Week #4: Repair scheduled, repairman came & went, didn't stay long enough to see if everything is working. Freezer cooling, fridge NOT. Week #5: Schedule repairman again, order another new part, American Home Shield tried to charge us for a new repair! Week #6: Wait for new part, and repairman to come. Ooops. No one told us we have to turn freezer off for 24 hrs prior to repair. Rescheduled repair for Saturday. Repairman came, again did not stay even 5 minutes to realize fridge still not cooling! Week # 7: Beginning sequence all over again. Don't know which is worse Premiere Appliance repair or American Home Shield, or the combo of them together.

Updated on 02/20/2019: We bought our home August of last year and the dishwasher has an error code and does not work. 4 different technicians have come out since then and it still does not work. One guy ordered a part and had it sent to our house and then one from the same company came a few days later and took the part, didn't install it. Now they are telling me I have to pay another service call fee of $75 because I waited over 60 days to tell them that the service call was a failure, even though I didn't wait 60 days to call them all the other times. I had given up on having a working dishwasher. And finally, I said, "You know what, I have time to deal with them today," and then they tell me that. I refuse to pay another fee when it was never fixed the first four times. I heard so many great things about this company but I haven't experienced that. I just want a working dishwasher! Is that too much to ask for???
Original Review: We bought our first home a month ago. We got this warranty through them. Within only a month of owning our home, I am already so fed up! I put in two service requests, each a $75 fee. One for my dishwasher and oven, the other for a faucet. A guy came out and said he fixed the dishwasher and the oven, neither of them were actually fixed. Someone came and told us we needed a new faucet, so they came a few days later and replaced it, and now the sink drains extremely slow. Day before yesterday I called to tell them about the dishwasher and oven, this was before I figured out about the sink.
I was put on the phone with someone who was very hard to understand. I told her my problem and she said she had to call them and put me on hold, then she came back on and told me that I added on the oven, that the initial service call was for the dishwasher so someone will come out to fix the dishwasher for no additional fee, but I would have to create a service call for the oven. I said no, the service call was for both, I never added anything on, and he said he fixed both. So she called them again, and got back on, and then told me the same story but with the appliances reversed, that I added on the dishwasher. I said, "No, I did not add anything on, one guy came out, one appointment, one service call, said he fixed both of them, but neither are fixed."
I had to say that at least four times to get her to understand it. Then finally she said, "Okay, we will have them come out again for no additional service fee for both." I said, "Okay so now do I wait for their call to set up the appointment?" She said, "Yes." I checked my account yesterday, and it had a service call for just the dishwasher and the status was waiting for authorization or something like that. So I waited until today to call, WELL NOW THEIR WHOLE SYSTEM IS DOWN AND CAN'T EVEN LOOK INTO MY ACCOUNT. And today, the company they assigned to it and the one that came out the first time, Airboss Mechanical called to let me know they would be at my home in 25 mins for my dishwasher, THEY NEVER CALLED ME TO SET THIS APPOINTMENT. AND NO ONE IS HOME.
So I told him I needed to call American Home Shield because it's supposed to be for two appliances. That's when the phone call I spoke about happened. So I looked up the reviews on Airboss Mechanical, And there is not one good one. All complainants about American Home Shield sending them out and that they were terrible. WHY IS A COMPANY STILL SENDING AIRBOSS OUT WHEN NOBODY IS HAVING A GOOD EXPERIENCE WITH THEM. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Now I have to call them back in one-two hours and hope their system is back up.

We purchased a home warranty with American Home Shield when we purchased our new home. Within a week of moving in, we had a pipe that leaked and had water damage in our living room. We contacted the warranty company and were informed that none of the damage would be covered and the only thing that would be covered was the labor related to having a plumber sent out, but not the service fee. We asked for a plumber to be sent out only to find an email in our inbox hours later that for some reason the plumber was cancelled without any phone calls to us from the warranty service.
We therefore called to have the contract cancelled. Since it was cancelled we have been trying to get our money back. The refund check was sent by American Home Shield to our title company. Our title company says audit rules state they can not cash the check and make one out to us. So we have tried to get in contact with American Home Shield to no avail to get this taken care of. I have left messages, I have sat on hold for hours only to be hung up on, it is so frustrating to not be able to get our money back and have no one at this company care enough to call us back.

I bought my first home just a little over 9 months ago and it came with an American Home Shield Warranty. I did not really care for the warranty but only 2 days after moving in I found an issue with the electrical box in the basement, some of the breakers were loose and the lights would flicker if you touched it. This felt unsafe so I called AHS to request it be fixed. Without any of their information/ contract begin given, stated or sent to me I told them my dilemma and they immediately offered to send someone. Their contractor poked it, told me "it's definitely not right" and left me with an "I'll send my report and they will contact you."
I was confused so I called back to see what happened. The problems only got more ridiculous. I was told my contract hasn't started yet, and that the electric box was improperly installed so they would not fix it unless I paid. This was insane to me because I just moved in, I never got their contract why would no one mention they only fix things that are caused by wear and tear and how did they and the appraiser never find this issue. After about a week of constantly calling and threatening to cancel my contract due to misinformation they decided to fix the issue.
Other issues occurred over the next couple months and I did not want to call and ask for help from AHS because of the hassle of my first experience. However, at the beginning of August my Kitchen refrigerator and AC unit stopped functioning, so I wrote my list of issues, reread my contract (which was sent to me near 3 weeks after moving in) and called AHS to see what they could help me with. I was told by their customer service representative that they would send someone to check all the issues for just one service fee ($75), I have now paid 3 ($225). It has been over 4 weeks now and my AC is more broken than when I first called, I am about to be in a legal battle to get back money their contractor claimed would fix the problem but didn't and I still have no kitchen refrigerator.
NOTHING ABOUT THIS COMPANY IS EASY OR HELPFUL! Every time I call with a question or issues I am on hold for at least 45 minutes to an hour before someone picks up. I have been hung up on multiple time where I have to call back and wait again to talk to some and they claim "it must have been a technical issue." I have been patient I know it is not the customer service reps fault that they can't help me it is the company as a whole. Please save yourself the money, time and hassle, do NOT get an American Home Shield Warranty

Worst company ever. Be aware if you have a older AC unit. They will not cover your coolant except $10 per pound. Was told I need to pay $780 for coolant in order to get my Compressor fixed. My warranty is paid up for a full year and they could care less if my children have to sit in 100" temps in my home.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

This is the worst company ever, put on hold for at least 40 minutes at a time (They hope you will hang up). Unqualified people answering the phone, quoting irrelevant portions of your service contract. Had a plumbing issue and it required the valve to be replaced. Was told that to put in the new valve would require the piping to be changed (Modified) because it was a different size. AHS said they would pay for the installation because it was a modification. They no longer make the original valve or parts for it.
I told them to find a valve that would fit in the existing section, the plumber said any installation would require a piping modification. Again AHS states they would pay for it and tried to quote a portion of the contract that talked about manufacturer defects. This company really believes the consumer to be a idiot. I am still in a dispute over the repair and am considering a Class Action Lawsuit since AHS seems to be using this as an excuse not to pay for the repairs.
Good morning Brian,
I understand your frustration with your most recent service request to have the plumbing leak repaired and the modification cost. I would be glad to speak with you and help assist with the repairs.

My mother had the same company for years and I've called them many times and they were always really good. The gentleman that came out was very knowledgeable and did a great job too. If others are gonna get extra insurance for the home, I would recommend AHS.

The representatives at American Home Shield have been very helpful. When we had an issue, the people that we talked to went and investigated it and then got back to us promptly. So I've been very satisfied with them. We've had both motors on the condenser outside replaced. One claim was filed online and one was over the phone. Both of them were equally simple. I also usually get a fairly quick response time from the contractor. For the refrigerator and ice maker, I had some really horrible contractors. But for the air conditioning, I've had some great contractors.
The first time I had a claim for the air conditioner, they made the repair right then and there. The second time, there were some issues. They said they had to order a part and then they were gonna get back to us. But they didn’t get back to us that day and said that they had no intention of coming back that day. That was when the American Home Shield people got involved with the contractor directly. They had the contractor come back the next day and replace the part. The air conditioner is a really old unit but it has been working. The warranty is definitely worth it, especially with the air conditioners here in Las Vegas. What we pay for the charges for the home warranty is more than made up for by what would have been the cost for a repair independently or even a new system.

I've been in my house since '66, and it came with a year with American Home Shield. I kept renewing and over the years, they've sent some really crappy companies. It's hard to get good companies. So when I had a claim for my AC that quit working and needed a tiny part, I called American Home Shield and requested for Trinity Heating & Air. If I set it up by computer, then I wouldn't have gotten the certain company I wanted. Trinity's contractors are very knowledgeable, polite, and get the work done. My AC was down for a day and a half but it's now fixed and working fine.

American Home Shield sent over a technician and his son when I submitted a claim to them for our garage door that didn't work. They came in, fixed the problem and made sure to leave in good repair. They were great, punctual and quick. In terms of my interaction with AHS' customer service, it has been up and down though. It's very easy to submit claims but very difficult to follow up in certain circumstances. When we had a stove-top range that they also sent a guy out on, it was determined that the range needed to be replaced but I waited on hold cumulatively for five hours.
At the end of that process, they gave me a recommendation for a stove-top range, but the way that the stove-top range needed to be installed, I would have to remove my countertop and oven then find a different place for the oven. I told them it was completely not viable but then it went through with more and more. I ended up saying that we would just take the cash and buy one, but it would cost me $500 more 'cause I have to pay for the installation. I was ticked off about that one, but that was the only negative experience I've had. American Home Shield has been a great investment of money.

My air conditioner was blowing hot air and it was no longer cooling. I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I like being able to set up appointments online but sometimes it’s good to talk to somebody to make sure I have all the information that I need.
AHS's reps have been very nice and the contractors that they sent out have been good. Usually, their contractor would contact me within a reasonable amount of time. If it’s emergency related like the air conditioner, I call them directly. The contractor who came out was nice, very thorough and he’s been here before. He's been really good about explaining everything. He finished repairing the air conditioner within an hour and it was well done. Our air conditioner works much better since the repair. I recommended AHS to both of my sons.

We had to get the policy for we have a 30-year old house with a pool and we had some issues. When we bought the house, not all of the pool's components were brand new but the pool was working. The biggest problem we had was with our pool system. AHS sent out a guy and he just crossed it off and said, “Negligence, it wasn’t taken care of,” and then we had to fight to justify. It’s a long-drawn-out thing to get anything done. I have other insurance for other things and I don’t have half the problems I have with American Home Shield. They are very slow and we have to fight to get whatever coverage that we’re trying to get. We had an AHS rep come out here to look at the problem. He was suppose to be a specialist and it took him forever to get anything done.
AHS' policy doesn’t state the age. When we got Joey, the rep, he finally said, “No. They can’t do that.” It took us two and a half months before we got any money to fix something that AHS' policy says it does fix. We are already discussing whether we wanna continue another year with AHS or just put that $800 in the bank somewhere that when we have problems, we’ll just pull it out and take care of what we need to. The majority of stuff that we have done for the poo has come out of our pocket. Not from AHS. We have put over $5,000 out of our pocket into the pool and there is still more that needs to be done. It’s very upsetting for us because if there is anything that looks older, AHS doesn’t want to touch it. Just go for new homes, if that’s all AHS wants to repair.
You can get warranties in the store where you buy it. In that sense, I’m not impressed that it has to be a battle. I’ve had appliance coverage before in our previous home and I didn’t have the hassles that I had with AHS. I thought it was gonna be the same thing - you just pick up the phone, tell them you got a problem with this and they work with you. We thought that this would be a great thing. It’s not like we will call AHS every time there is a $75 and then we will have hassles. Who wants to go through that if you’re a consumer? It can’t be like that. The part of the company that is trying to justify claims and turns them down is too aggressive to the point where they’re hurting the company.
Joey is very personal and listens and I appreciate that. When he came in, he was helpful but it took quite a while. Sometimes, communication wasn’t always there at the end. With dealing with Joey, it has gotten better. I get that he’s going on a honeymoon, but there are also things going with the company or saying, “This is going to be a little delayed.” He didn’t say that at first. The communication was there, but he was new to this area too so I’m sure there was a lot to get adjusted to the area. But without him, we would have asked for a total refund within our 30 days.
We like the service of the air conditioner contractor, Integrity Conditioners. They were very polite. However, we we did not like the guy that AHS sent here for the pool so at that point, Joey let us choose who we wanted to work on our pool. We finally found a good pool company and it was Pinch A Penny. They’ve been around for a long time and they knew what they were doing. When you are new to an area, you don’t know all and everything. You just notice their stuff until you start using them. That’s trial and error. We tried the company before Pinch A Penny and they were not that knowledgeable. They helped us for a little bit, but it wasn’t enough to do what we needed with the pool. We’ve never had a pool before that’s why we also thought when we pay the extra $100 for the pool service we wouldn’t need what that knowledge meant.
There needs to be a check and balance and say, “Okay. The first year are to they’re in the house. Yes, it’s gonna be a little bit more, but that’s to be understandable until they get settled. But then if they’re happy with the insurance, then we’ll keep them for years.” They will profit and put more money in. AHS needs to look at their service. Don’t do it as a dangling little carrot and then not really stand behind what they are saying, and AHS needs to re-evaluate the pamphlet versus the policy because the impression is different. When we first started going through the houses, I called my realtor and said, “Don’t recommend American Home Shield.” She was thinking of getting it herself for her own house. However, the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.

American Home Shield stands behind everything they say they’re gonna do, and they make things transpire with ease. They don’t give you a runaround. Their claims representatives have always been dynamite since I’ve had them. I called to submit a claim for my AC and they had Air Supply Services come out. The tech ended up not having to charge me. The Freon leaked, but it was just a pinhole, and he said it wasn’t even worth it that he didn’t bill me.
The only problem I haven’t resolved is my garage door. 495 Garage Door came out to the property when I was having some garage problems with the door not shutting. I would hit the remote control, go out, and then the garage door would go right back up. And so, I had 495 Garage Door take a look at it to find out what the problem was. They said the only thing that I was having issues with are the sensors. This has happened twice, but I still have the issue. So, I have no idea what the resolution would be. I thought that getting a new garage door that was insulated would make a big difference. The guy that was here ended up selling me an insulated garage door, which seemed reasonable because the one that was there was paper-thin, and it had a few dents in it. However, I don’t see a difference. I just see that it’s heavier and has insulation. I’m not that pleased with that. I felt like I spent a lot of money for something that didn’t help.
Still, AHS is the best insurance company in the world. They do a good job vetting. Every contractor that’s come out from AHS has always been professional and A1 rated. American Home Shield is not overly expensive and so it’s worth the small investment. It’s reasonable. So, by the time you’ve paid off your membership in a year, sometimes that could be one appliance, and it makes a big deal.

My heat and air unit was over 30 years old and it wasn’t cooling down. It had its quirks and it got to where it wasn’t working real good. I filled out an online deal with American Home Shield and Air Pro Services contacted me. I had good interactions with the technician who came out and he listened to what I had to say about the system. He checked out the system, went out and looked at it, did some things then came back and said that he could get it fixed, but it would just breakdown again. So, American Home Shield shipped a new unit to Air Pro in two weeks from the day that the tech came. Then they came back and took roughly a day and a half to install it. I'm fairly happy with American Home Shield and I've already referred them to a couple of my friends.

They were very knowledgeable, nice and on time. They said they had to order a part which would take 5 to 10 days. It took close to two and a half weeks but they kept us informed and it wasn’t their fault, it was just getting the shipment. We had very few claims with AHS but they’ve always been responsive. I most recently had a claim filed with American Home Shield for an air conditioner repair. I submitted the claim online and their site was very useful and helpful. But one of the things that they need to put into account is when you make the call and you're speaking to a representative, one of the first things they ask you for is your phone number. The phone number should not only be used for verification. However, if the line is cut, it's best to check who you're speaking to, to call back the number because if they don't do that, sometimes the whole time is 40 minutes and 30 minutes. That means you have to start over from scratch.
I had an experience in one day, where one call took me almost two hours. I have various properties and I don't have that time in the day just to make one call to American Home Shield. And even after the first tech, after the phone died, they never called me back. When I got on the phone for the second tech, I went and told him. When that call was dropped also, he never called back. All they have is a company-wide policy to not call back. So then the customer would have to start over from scratch. And a lot of times, we're on our cell phones and making these calls. If the call had been dropped, they should call back. So the customer can speak to the same person and continue the conversation from where they stopped, rather than have to start over, back on hold for 30 minutes and get somebody on the phone again.
Also, another thing that has to do with them not calling back is that I called on one occasion and the rep was trying to help me schedule an appointment with one of the contractors. At that time, it was past 6:00 and she said they were closed then and that they would come first thing the following morning. She said she would get in contact with them and would get back to me but I haven't heard from her till date.
Outside that, I got a very good company. They took care of my problem. But there was this technician that before they came to my house, I told him that one of my AC units in my personal home was not working. I told him it was not an emergency, it wasn't working out like as it was fixed. However, the weekends work great for me because I run a business during the week. But he said they don't do that and that they save their weekends for emergency calls only. So, at the end of the day, it was scheduled for a weekday, where I had to go through so many just to make it there because they couldn't accommodate for the weekend.
Also, the AC technician that came to my first property to fix the air conditioner said that because the box on the wall was blank, it had no power. I needed to call electrical to come and verify power to the box before we came back. I said that if they could wait, I would come there put the batteries but he said he was not gonna wait if I do that. I went back, I put the batteries in, and the box was working. When I called them back, they said they were not gonna come back, unless an electrician comes in and say it was not a power problem. That was a week's wait. I waited for a week and the electrician came in for 30 seconds and said that it was not a power problem and that there was power to that thing.
Then, the AC guy came. It was 30 minutes and was a waste of money and time. They said there was power to the box and that there was nothing he would do. But that puts the customers up in such a difficult situation because I have a rental property and these people were pressuring me. Every time I called the technician back, they would say American Home Shield did not say my claim was gonna be expedited. But the first one was expedited. and the problem is still not fixed. One common sense tell you that that one was expedited and they said it was not and that I had to call AHS. At the end of the day, I finally requested for different technician. They came and they were awesome. They did the job like they were supposed to. But that going back and forth with some companies feel like they don't have to do the work and they're still gonna get paid.
I don't feel like that first technician should be reimbursed for what he did but there was nobody to talk to. Everybody you talk to would say they understand but it really didn't change anything. AHS don't realize and I don't know if they pay extra on expedited calls. But I was getting the run-around between the electrical company and the AC company, that everything else should be expedited. I was waiting a week each for the technician to come back. They should give me a courtesy. I'm talking about going into three weeks of getting an AC fix in Las Vegas where it's 110 degrees. But everything is fixed now. Also, I recently had a tech on my personal property and he was don in less than 15 minutes. It was no hassle and stress and it was an awesome service. If anyone asks about AHS, I would tell them that it's a home warranty company that is good to have.

We had had some bad weather and our lights flickered for 10 seconds, just enough to throw off the coffee pot and all the clocks. It was around 4th of July and we were having a 4th of July party. When we went to turn out lights on outside, the plug didn’t work. We have two outlets and neither one of them worked. It was very frustrating, so we called American Home Shield. The only thing that I did not like is we had a different home warranty company at our older house and we would always pay the technician the service fee. With American Home Shield, when I placed the order, the rep asked, “Do you wanna pay now?” I said no and that I was not paying for service that I hadn’t received yet. Then, we got an email stating we owe $100 which we could pay online by clicking a button and we paid then. We would have paid the gentleman directly or if they called us immediately after the repairman's service ticket had been transmitted.
Other than that, they sent a technician out a day or two later and we went around and checked in the house. What we did not realize, because we had only been in the house a matter of months, was that in the garage on the wall that goes into the house, there was one of those plugs with the little red that you hit for test and reset and all that. That had popped. When the guy came, all he did was look, went directly to it, pushed it in, went outside, and the outlets worked. They were receiving power. It was a $100 trip for pushing the button. It took about a week and a half and I had a new water heater. The contractor was great. New water heaters are kind of expensive and I didn't pay full price for them.

I had a whole house policy previous to American Home Shield. I was with two different companies because neither of the companies would cover all of my equipment and I had to pay per piece. I had to pay $5 a month for my refrigerator, $5 a month for my stove and $5 a month for my washer, and certain other companies would not cover certain brands. For example, I bought a house and we had a Sub-Zero refrigerator in the kitchen and Sears won't cover Sub-Zero. So, I had to go to PSE&G to cover it, and it got a little confusing because I had some of the insurance at one company and some of the insurance at another.
A friend recommended American Home Shield, so I went to them. Then within a couple of months, the summer came out and we put on the air conditioner, but it really wasn't getting cold. I have two air conditioning units in my house and it was the in-wall unit that I had called American Home Shield about. The website was very convenient and it was very easy to make the appointment. I put in the claim and the contractor that American Home Shield sent came in to take a look at my air conditioner. The response was immediate but I had to pay $100 just to make the appointment, while with some of the other companies there was no charge.
For example, I had a problem with my refrigerator and American Home Shield has not taken hold yet so I still called the old company to come in. They came in and looked at my refrigerator, and there was no charge. They had to order a part and again, there was no charge. The guy had to come back a second time to install the part and then he found out the part that was sent was wrong. He re-ordered the part and came back a third time, yet I never paid a dime which was terrific.
Still, the contractor that American Home Shield sent for my air conditioner showed up and the guy was very knowledgeable and nice. He looked at the air conditioner and decided that I needed Freon. He then told me, however, that it was not covered so I wound up having to pay for that. If I never had any insurance and called a regular repair guy, I suspect the cost would have been close to the price I paid. American Home Shield is pretty expensive, but the difference is they cover everything. On the other hand, they were very quick to take my money. Once the contractor got here and I had already paid for the service call, I had him look at the other air conditioner as well. However, while the first one that I called them about is working fine now, the other unit is working worse.

A few months ago, I filed a claim to American Home Shield for two appliances for repair. One was a range that was leaking. A part of it was replaced and it's fine now. The other one was a dishwasher that leaked. The same contractor came out but he had to come back a couple of times because it was a tricky thing. Rather than replacing the whole unit, which is new, he tried to fix it the best he could and he did. And now, we just have periodic issues. It's the way it was designed. The contractor explained that there's probably a flaw with something inside that if the rubber doesn't fold in a certain way, it will leak. And we're seeing it happening now so we have to try to make sure it folds right when we're closing the door. I've spoken to a couple of their reps on different times and they were fine. The contractor who came was very good. He explained everything to me. I'd tell others that American Home Shield is good to have.

I have little kids and I needed my A/C working so I called a local contractor and they fixed my A/C. I submitted the invoice to AHS and they refused my invoice. AHS takes specific action to prevent its PAYING customers from getting the insurance they paid for. During excessive hold times while filing and processing a claim, customer service reps shared that they are taught to put customers on hold for HOURS to prevent claims from being filed. Once filed claims are further delayed and AHS refuses to put in writing the work they are paying for or what products their contractors will be installing. They replace equipment with the cheapest product they can find, regardless of the quality of the existing equipment being replaced.
Good evening David,

To say working with AHS has been a nightmare would be putting it lightly. Before I even moved into my new home, they had messed up my account. Apparently they mixed my account up with someone else and made changes to my account without letting me know. I had paid for 2 yrs, but saw that they were only honoring 1 yr on my account. I was told that "someone" had called and made changes, but they could not tell me who. I asked where the extra $320 went, and they said a refund was mailed to my title co. This was back at the beginning of July and I still have yet to receive a refund.
I have called multiple times and have been assured the check is in the mail, but they cannot tell me to what address. I've also requested they send the check directly to my house, but they said they cannot do that. This has been the worst experience possible. I can only imagine the nightmare it will be if I actually need to have something serviced at my house. I wish I could just cancel the whole policy and get all my money back!!! If you really want a home warranty policy, DO NOT use AHS!

When it comes in we can schedule for installment." I talked to AHS about the issue and got zero help. Actually got lies. Talked to 3 different people at AHS after being on hold for 45 minutes each time and was told 3 different stories.
The first lady I talked to took all my info and said she was filing a cash option report. After 45 minutes said she was transferring me to the options department and hung up on me. Called back and talked to different person who told me that there was no option filed and they didn't even have the ability to do that or transfer calls. This guy accidentally hangs up on me. Third person tells me that they will put together a cash option for me and email it to me as soon as I got off the phone with him. Over 24 hours later and I'm still waiting on the email. It is on average 94 degrees in our home. The previous AC contractor for a repair in June put locking caps on our unit. AHS finally got the original contractor Total Air Care our today. The technician who guaranteed his work in June told me the system was misdiagnosed, it needs to be flushed and they will contact me sometime soon to make repairs. It’s September in Southern Louisiana. After waiting on hold with American Home Shield for over 3 hours they claim they will pay $125 dollars of the $300 wall unit we purchased so our family can sleep in one room at night in our home. I have to sent a letter to their P.O. box reimbursement department. This is unacceptable and no way to treat an active duty military family. We will not be renewing our contract.
We have also been waiting since 4 August 18 for a plumber to fix the hot water and leak in our bathroom. Ray Stoval plumbing came out and said it was an easy fix and they would be back as soon as AHS sent the warranty part. They never came back. After weekly calls to AHS they sent a new plumber. The plumber finally came 19 September 18 and confirmed the leak was wear and tear. AHS called me after he left and told me I will need to pay $ 175 dollars for piping around the valve. I recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield for our oven which wasn't working and it was easy submitting a claim for it. The tech then came out and he was very appropriate. He did what he was supposed to do and he fixed the problem in one visit. The oven has been good since. American Home Shield did what they said they would do.

When R & R Allstar Electric came out to service a fan, they took a part off and hooked it up so we could use it via light switch, and that part was fine. But then they said they had to order a part and it took almost a month. Every time I called, they said the part hadn't been ordered. Then once the part had been ordered, I told them to call me when it comes in but I did not hear anything. So I called then they sent someone out. But the gentleman indicated that he just had to go pick up the part at the store. They never ordered the part like they had told me and were dragging me out for a whole month. They lied to me and not just once, but every time I called to ask concerning the part. Why couldn't they be upfront and say they could just send a guy to Home Depot or Lowe's to pick up the part?
Also, R & R serviced the fan once and then wanted $140 to put the part back on it. They said they couldn't work on the fan because it was on my lanai and it wasn't covered under my plan with American Home Shield. The guy who was here called American Home Shield to verify if the fan was covered and the person there said it wasn't. Apparently, the first guy didn't tell American Home Shield that it was a lanai fan. When he was here, he went out to his truck and called American Home Shield to make sure the part was covered. When he came in, he suggested it was. But only inside fans are covered. The first person who authorized the work must have assumed it was an inside fan. So it was partly R & R's fault. It was a fiasco.
We got American Home Shield on the phone and I explained to them how very upset I was. I had read what comments people had said previously about R & R and I don't understand why American Home Shield is still using them. My recommendation for American Home Shield is to find another electrical company because this company was horrible to work with. We were not happy with them at all. R & R had terrible service but Total Air Care, on the other hand, was an awesome company.
The draining system was clogged up and the AC was leaking water. So I filed a claim with American Home Shield online, which was easy. Then Total Air Care came out in two days. They called ahead of time saying they would be here within the next 20 minutes to half an hour and they were here on time. The technician was also able to solve the problem and take care of it. It had not worked when he was trying the first time. But I liked that he didn't give up. He kept working at it and the third time was a lucky charm. The company had great service and were excellent.

We have American Home Shield on a rental property in Mammoth Lakes and we live in about 300 miles away from it. If anything goes wrong, we cannot always go up and take care of it. AHS has really been a valuable asset getting along with our rentals and with the remoteness of our property. I use their website all the time if I can and it is quite easy to navigate. I've used the insurance over three times since we had the property in five years, and AHS was very good in all of my experiences.
When I submitted a claim through their website for my microwave problem, AHS was very, very fast in getting a contractor out. The guys were out here in a few days and they were good people. They couldn't repair the microwave right away because it had a broken part that was too expensive to repair. So they had to order a replacement, which they did quite judiciously. It took a little longer because it had to go through all of the hoops of the system. But they did reorder a replacement and they replaced it when they got the part within a week.

I had an issue with my dryer. I submitted a claim with AHS and the representative I talked to was pretty good. She called in the order and got an appliance man out here pretty quickly. It was perfect. But once the tech came out, he told me that I just had to hold these two buttons down and it’d clear the lock on the dryer. Before he came. I tried everything and pressed the buttons where he showed me, but I didn’t press them at the same time. It was crazy. He also told me that I should have looked online and it would’ve explained to me how to do it.
So I sent my service fee for nothing, but it was not AHS' fault. The tech was very good. My washer also broke down a month before and he fixed that, too. And he was very nice, so because the washer and dryer are a set, when I called AHS for the dryer, I asked for the same guy and the same company. I have my AHS warranty for a couple of months now. I have the pool thing on it and I like it. I feel secure with something like this and as far as things that need to be done when they break down, I feel comfortable that I can call and I’ll get them serviced. I like AHS and I’ve been recommending them.

For my claim for a leak, American Home Shield got me in contact with a contractor. He was very professional in getting all of my information down and I was very satisfied. But they haven't resolved my problems yet. He couldn't find the leaks so a leak person has to be sent out. An appointment has been set but it's not until Friday because that's the earliest they can get to me. On top of that, I'm very dissatisfied because it took me a whole week to even get someone to answer the phone. American Home Shield kept me on hold for five hours. I left that phone laying there and the recording was saying something about the next available person. Then when I called back, I got the same thing. I called back again but it was still the same thing. I had to go through billings and say I wanted to pay my bill to get anybody to answer. I had to have someone else to come out and turn my water off so my water bill wouldn't keep going up.

Both of the contractors that American Home Shield has referred to me were excellent. The two times I've called AHS, they were very responsive. The first contractor I had needed to replace the pump on my washing machine. The tech who came out was wonderful and gave excellent customer service. They charged me $108 total.
Another time, my garage door thing wasn't working. I thought it was broken. But then, my daughter who's electronically gifted actually got it working. So, I told the contractor sent by AHS that my door was working again and I haven't been having any trouble with it. Still, they were ready to come out and take care of things. They went ahead and cancelled the appointment for me. I've had AHS since January. Before that, I ended up having to replace an expensive water heater and also dealt with a problem with my dryer. The service guy showed me what the problem was and then he left and got the part, came back and fixed it.
I'm able to get stuff fixed with American Home Shield, but I wish it was a lot persistent with the coverage within the home. When I had a claim for my garage door, AHS told me it wasn't covered. We've had a lot of claims with American Home Shield in the last couple of months. Unfortunately, our house seems to be falling a little bit apart. One time, all of a sudden, our air conditioning, on one of the hottest days of the year, stopped working. I submitted the claim online but our thing broke over the weekend and AHS didn't get back to me until Monday. But they have great customer service. They contract out a lot of the work, so they don't necessarily have a lot of information directly about the contractors, but they've always been great with giving me an estimate to when they were gonna be returning my calls. If the contractor does not arrive or does not call in time, they've been fantastic about following up with me.
We've had a whole of stuff gone and having American Home Shield has been a great peace of mind to know that we're not gonna be put in an extreme amount of debt or just being able to have somebody we can count on to send out a repair person. This is our first time buying a home, so it has been a huge relief for us. Any time that I have a friend who's buying a home, I tell them they need to get a home warranty and that American Home Shield is great because it has saved us thousands of dollars.

I've been happy overall with American Home Shield but a little dissatisfied with the last company they sent out. We had an AC issue that started about a month ago. The last company that came out fixed my starter, got my AC running, but then it quit running one night and made weird noises. So I called them 'cause they come back out for 60 days for free. We went without AC for a good day and a half, before they could get out there, and it was hot. They sent a young gentleman out and he told me that there was some part in the bottom needed to be replaced because it froze over, which is a huge deal wrong. I would also have to have all the Freon taken out then they would replace the part, and I'd have to pay for all the Freon to be put back in. I said, "Okay," so they ordered the part and called me a week later. My AC has been fine ever since. So, American Home Shield is great but sometimes I don't care for the companies they send out.

We had a very unfortunate experience with the American Home Shield insurance company and their sub-contractor Malangone Mechanical LLC. We’ve requested a water tank replacement on July 6th. The Malangone Mechanical demanded an additional payment of $398 for the “modification” job. After reading other reviews for this company, we found that it’s been done by this company many times – additional payments, even though the insurance covers the full job. And we should’ve checked the reviews for this company prior agreeing to work with them – it’s the worst company ever we dealt with. We are very disappointed in the American Home Shield insurance company since they not screen their sub-contractors. And after so many complaints about this company, they should’ve stopped dealing with this company.
After back and forth, we paid the requested amount, just to resolve the issue. The job was performed on July 25th by Malangone Mechanical LLC. Then the troubles began: The old water tank was not removed after the job was done – the removal required more than 1 person and we were told that it will be done in a few days once they have 2-3 people available to remove tank. Today is 2 months later – the tank has not been removed. Malangone Mechanical LLC gave us different excuses why it has not been done, and still there is no firm date when it will be removed.
At the same time, the American Home Shield insurance company has tried to charge us twice for the technician visit. We had to call them 3 times to fight the charge, every time spending on the phone over 1 hour. As of now the charge has been removed, and we hope it will not appear on our account again. We received no help from the American Home Shield insurance company to resolve the tank removal issue – they’ve taken the sub-contractor site. We will never use the service of the American Home Shield insurance company and we would like to warn others to stay away from this company.

A/C stopped working. First tech said that it was low on Freon, because of a leak. In order to find the leak it would result in loss of Freon which I would have to pay $70 per lb to replace. System capacity is 9 lbs 8 ozs. I told him I do not feel that I should have to pay for replacement of all the Freon that is lost during a check to find a leak. He then recommended a charge of 3 lbs. to bring unit back up to proper working order. I said why should I put in 3 lbs of Freon at $70 per lb knowing it will leak out in just a few weeks. He had no response to that.
A second tech was sent out from a different company. He told me practically the same thing, but when I asked him about checking for the leak he refused to do it. His only suggestion was to charge the system with 3 lb of freon. As was stated in an earlier post, American Home Shield will not replace an A/C unit unless the cost of repair exceeds the cost of a new unit. Their phone support is terrible. The only reason I have the plan is that we insisted on some sort of warranty plan when we purchased the home. What a mistake. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.
Updated on 09/21/2018: Your response, which is the most common reply you have to people who have problems with your service was, "A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible?" How does that help me? A social media specialist cannot fix my A/C. That reply is typical of the service received from AHS. I've had 2 service techs from different companies here and both insist on putting Freon into the system. There is a leak, so why would I want to pay $165 to put Freon into the system and then have it leak out in a week or 2?

My sister purchased a comprehensive home warranty with AHS this past spring. She's on a teacher's salary and this was her lifeline for failures in her small home. She contacted AHS OVER 9 weeks ago when her refrigerator went out. After two service calls, the company said the parts "were on order." She has followed up with them many many times and had to purchase a small dorm-sized refrigerator as AHS REFUSES to replace the item!!! OVER NINE weeks. She finally got a hold of Shelley as an escalation manager. Shelley said she'd reimburse her for the small one and has yet to do so.
As of yesterday, the contracted vendor said ONE part came in but admitted the other part is STILL on backorder. I was on hold with George, with strong Indian accent, who said he was escalating to his manager, who he didn't know his name. He disconnected me!!! I'm hold now for over 40 minutes!!! What does it take to get a replacement when repairs are NEVER going to happen?!? Read their website -- they talk about the security of having products repaired or replaced quickly. IT'S GOING ON THREE MONTHS!!!

Again this past July 2018 the AC broke down and after 2 techs have come out they said it was the outside coil that was bad. AHS has just denied the replacement! They put a lemon unit in and after over 50 hours on the phone they have the audacity to deny the claim saying it was not normal wear and tear as if I would damage the coil! I have had the run around from this warranty dept and it is apparent they have no loyalty to their customers. If someone from AHS is reading this please let me know how to contact someone as I will probably have to file a lawsuit due to the mold that has started to grown in my basement due to their negligence and dragging out the repair process.

Still, when he came back out, even though the next day was a Saturday, he did the repair. The refrigerator has been working well ever since the service. AHS's warranty is worth the money for the coverage that people have through them.

The ac unit is real old and at one point a wire came loose, and that created a problem. The other time the contractor AHS sent had to replace a motor. They did a good job and ac is now working fine. I called the claim in and the contractor came after three days but I know that these guys work 12-hour shifts during the summertime because without air conditioning, Las Vegas doesn't go. The guys that came out were very knowledgeable. One of the supervisors called me and checked in on it a day later, and they’re very super.

I submit claims with American Home Shield over the phone because the last time I logged in online, I couldn’t get in. The reps do fine. My last claim was for a home in Riverside and it was for a plumbing. The drain didn’t drain quickly and the contractor fixed it in fifteen minutes. They were there in the window and they just came and got their jobs done. However, I’ve been on hold for more than an hour with the reps, which is insane. Also, they make these appointments and then no one shows up. I end up calling back and re-doing it. I will not use American Home Shield again. I’ll never pay for them again.

The refrigerator was not keeping anything cold and I was buying a gallon of milk every other day because it was spoiling. It was also leaking water a little and it went on for a while. I called American Home Shield and the claims reps listened to my concerns and they sent somebody to look at it. It took the contractor about two weeks to get here, although they are usually really fast. He didn’t talk a whole lot, but he said it was fixed. However, after he left, I had the same problem and the milk was still spoiling, so I tried to call him myself but couldn’t get him. I called American Home Shield back and explained that and they told me to call them first if it happens again and they’ll contract it. They ended up sending a different contractor the next time.
When the second contractor came out, he asked who has been looking at the refrigerator and I said that he was the second contractor. He asked if I spoke to someone else and what they told me. I said that he said it was fixed. The second contractor saw so many things wrong with it and said that it was not fixed. He also told me that he was gonna have to tell AHS because it was gonna take a lot. He was saying a lot of stuff and I didn’t know how could one say something so different, but I was more in agreement with the second one because the milk spoiled no sooner than the other one left. After he said what all needed to be done, he felt it was cheaper to replace it. If it wasn’t fixed, AHS would keep getting somebody to come out here and look at it. AHS replaced my refrigerator and I had to call to see when they were going to deliver it, and it happened in about two weeks.
The refrigerator is nice and it's similar to the one I had. It is almost identical, although just a little newer model. I really wanted to upgrade and they gave me an offer, but I had to buy the refrigerator myself and send them the invoice, then they will reimburse me up to the amount they allowed on the other refrigerator. This refrigerator that I wanted was about $200 more, but I only had around $1000 to pay for the refrigerator. Still, I’m very pleased with American Home Shield. I've been with them for about a year and I’ve had two claims, and I was satisfied with the outcome of both claims. I had a problem with my washing machine and they sent someone right out. If it takes a little longer, sometimes it’s not their fault. They contract it out and they look for the contractor to set the appointment up. AHS is worth the money. Try them because you never know when something may go wrong in your house.

We had a light switch that arced when we were having some storms so it blew out half of the power in my house. I called American Home Shield and they took the information about the problem. They were very concerned about me being halfway in the dark and it being electrical. Within a couple of hours, I had the contractor company calling me and they came out that same day. They were very quick and efficient, and they fixed the arcing of the wire.
I'm OCD about cleanliness and they cleaned up everything plus took away their trash. We had some residual that happened to the ceiling fan and the technician told me what I needed to do. He was very professional, funny and talkative. I really enjoyed the visit. AHS saved me. If I did this outside of my warranty, it would've cost me more to get an electrician to come in and do lots of repairs. The warranty is a money-saving tool in the long run. I recommend American Home Shield.

My washing machine was leaking and I called American Home Shield. They sent somebody over to the house and it turned out that the transmission was going bad. The guy that came over to fix it searched and couldn't find a replacement for it 'cause it was an older unit. Then he turned all that information into AHS and they said they were gonna do a search on their own. Two weeks went by and we still hadn’t heard from American Home Shield if they found the part or not. So, they called me and explained to me what I already knew about the washer. Then I told them that I had been waiting to hear from them about the replacement part, but the rep didn’t have that information and had to call the parts department, then I got hung up on. Prior to that, my wife was on the phone with them and got hung up on as well.
When I finally got a hold of AHS, I asked how long I had to wait because water would be covering my floor everytime I’d do my wash. The rep then said that we would have to wait three business days, but I told her that it had been two weeks. Then the very next day, I got a call and they said that they couldn’t find the replacement part and they were gonna send me either money or the replacement unit that they offer. So my wife took care of that and they ended up replacing the washer.
The washer was sent to the contractors in Buffalo and they had to deliver to my house in Erie. The guy who was driving the truck was great, but his helper was a complete ignorant ass. When they got half of my washer to my back half of basement where my washing machine is, they need to come into the finished part of my basement to go upstairs. They picked the old one out, but they never drained the complete bottom of it and black, soapy and almost look like oil and water started spilling out onto my carpet. Instead of stopping there, the kid said that we had to know it was gonna have water leaking out of it. We had no idea and they continued to go right up to the stairs and right out of the house where they were dripping. The tile and hardwood upstairs floor was cleaned up but I had these big black stains.
My wife called the people at the place in Buffalo and the lady was nice and she asked her to take pictures of it and send it to them to see if they could straighten it out. While in the meantime, I called the company to complain about how the guy was towards my wife 'cause I wasn’t home and the lady was super nice to me and apologized. Then she said she already got the pictures and showed to her supervisor and that they wanted us to have it cleaned as soon as possible and send them the bill. This happened on a Friday and my wife got somebody to clean it up on Monday. So, as it turned out, some of them lightened up and some of them didn’t even go away. So, she told my wife just to take care of that, take pictures of it, take pictures of the bill and send it to her and they would take care of everything.
The people that AHS have representing them are fantastic, and over it’s a great cost. Now, the washer issue was resolved. Even my son who works for a big insurance company here in Erie and his girlfriend’s parents think it almost sounds too good to be true. But they’re solid and they’re kosher in how they handle it. It's just some of the people that are working for them just aren't there.
You have to call them to follow up on everything and the people that answer the phone for them are absolutely awful. They don’t have a clue and are making it miserable for you before they try to find any information. Also, if I call them, I expect to be put on hold until I get to be the next person. And when they call me at work, they put me on hold till I'm the next person, which doesn’t make any sense. If they’re calling me, they need to talk to me and not put me on hold. Fortunately for my wife, she can just put the person on hold or just put it on speaker and just wait for somebody to come there. She was put on hold for over an hour when they called her in her office.
The AHS reps also did the same thing when I had my air conditioning taken care of. Only one part of it went and because it was an older unit, they couldn’t get the actual air handler to match the outside condenser with the new ones so they had to install a whole new system. But they were great about what it covers and handling it. I love the whole concept of American Home Shield and it's a good thing to have. My neighbors are hooking up with it after we showed them all the stuff that we've got with AHS. Also, two guys here at work are planning on signing up for it too.

I’m so upset and would not recommend this company for not doing research on the people that they are sending to our homes. I had a technician come in and fix my washer which works when he left but to my surprise when I went to put my clothes in the dryer it was not spinning. I called the tech back to come look to make sure he didn’t have anything unplugged. When he came back as soon as he entered my home with a smart remark he told me “at least my washer is working now and laughed”. When he looked at it he said most likely the belt needs to be replaced because it is not spinning but that I would have to start another claim because he didn’t have the parts and as soon as he was walking out in his own works he said “well it must be bad luck huh”. Who says that!!! I seriously feel like he scammed us fixing our washer by breaking our dryer which worked yesterday just so we can give them more business!!!

Since I cannot get this issue resolved by the phone maybe I will have better luck here. My wife and I purchased a policy when we purchased our new house back in June. We called and scheduled an appointment to have our dishwasher looked at for a leak in early August. The technician came out to the house and evaluated the dishwasher, fridge and microwave and wrote up the parts needed for all 3.
After a couple of weeks and a couple of calls later we finally were told that the parts were on order. After not hearing anything my wife called on September 1st and was told that the technician never filed the paperwork and that you were going to have a new company call us and set up a new appointment after Labor Day (Sep 5th). After not hearing anything I called back on the September 12th and talked to a person who was very apologetic and told me they were escalating the issue so that she would have the issue expedited so that it would be resolved within 48hrs.
Tonight I talked to yet another person and it seemed like there was no record of any of the previous calls, it seemed like I was starting over. I asked several times to speak to a manager but never got one. The resolution that was provided was to have a company call me tomorrow to set up an appointment. When I informed her that this was unacceptable and wanted the issue escalated immediately the call was disconnected.
Needless to say my wife and I are beyond aggravated with the lack of service and follow through from your company. I understand that the company you contracted to do the service did not do what they were supposed but we pay you for the service and expect you to have a clear escalation process and honor your commitments to us. If we do not get a satisfactory resolution by the end of this week we will be forced to challenge the charge on our credit card and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We are about 2 months into a year long contract and I am starting to feel like a victim of fraud.
Good morning Richard

It has been over three weeks now and I have yet to receive a quote. I have called 6-7 times, no one really seems to care about my delay. I put in my order online when my AC went out and the service provider called that same evening and came out the next day. They were even early. I was so happy, thought this is great. That’s where the problems began. I need a new compressor, so American Home Shield has to approve it. It took them four days to do so. It’s summer in Texas! Finally get the approval on a Monday and then the contractor can’t come out till Thursday! They also want me to pay $600 out of pocket, because they don’t cover the extra parts required to get it up to code! Are you kidding me?! Part of your agreement isn’t to make sure it’s up to code. We've had several different service requests with American Home Shield and we've gone through the process several times. We had a failure with one of our AC systems and we did an online service request and then they assigned us to a provider. The provider contacted us and we scheduled their service visit. The technician came out, inspected the unit, determined that it was not functional and that we needed to replace it. He submitted that diagnosis to American Home Shield and then, they contacted us with an upgrade offer. We paid our portion and then AHS covered the additional cost and we replaced the entire system. The technician was good. Our interaction worked seamlessly and it was one of the best.
We've had some other issues with other service requests that didn't go quite as smoothly though. We have a Wolf oven and range top, and since we moved in, the oven door has not been closing fully. We've contacted American Home Shield 20 times to find a service provider that services this type of stove and oven. We finally found a service provider that would deal with it and they came out, but they didn't fix the problem. We called AHS back to try to get another service provider and we were tossed around to the same set of providers that don't service that brand. With my husband being very persistent, and after hours on the phone, we were finally able to convince AHS that we needed to get a professional who knew how to handle that particular appliance.
We found our own provider and got authorization from AHS to proceed with that provider. The provider came out and suggested that we replace some parts. We were working with the provider directly but at that point, I didn't know what was covered and not, and it was not easy dealing with AHS on that particular service order just because of the brand of the appliance that we have. It could be a frustrating process to deal with a middleman that doesn't really understand the nature of the problem and dealing with different representatives each time. I'm sure that there were notes in the system, but it was hard to follow sometimes when so many calls had been made and there was a new person going through the same explanation each time before we move forward.
Another experience I had was when the work order on the oven got transferred and we had another service at the same time, and there was some mix-up within the system. We had paid a service fee and I had to make multiple phone calls to try and get that resolved. Every time I talked to someone they said that they'd resolve it for us but it would still show up and I would still get a notice that I owed this past few service fee so that was a bit of a frustration too and it went on for about a month and a half. Those were the two issues that we had so far with their service, but we had other requests that went very smoothly like the AC so it's a balance. American Home Shield is what we expected with a home warranty company.

We now have clean water and the pool worked more efficiently.
All the most recent transactions that I've had have been excellent. I have called American Home Shield four times max, two times of which were with the pool and both were handled expeditiously. But my first experience wasn't so great. It was with the AC and I ended up canceling that because we couldn't go for four days during the hot part of the summer to have somebody come out and still wouldn't have known what would be wrong to be fixed for longer than that. One of the main reasons that someone would have a service like this is to have access within a reasonable amount of time, and when it comes to Texas hot, AC resolution is really important. Still, American Home Shield is great.

My recent experience with American Home Shield was not good and I didn't like it. Everything was right with the technician, but when I called the customer service, it was not nice. The technician was doing his job and it was the third time that they came to my house to fix the AC. The first time, they sent somebody and they fixed it. But one week after, there was the same problem so I called again, and they sent a different person that fixed it. It was something different but about the same because the AC unit that I have in my garage is still leaking. Before, something was stuck on the drain so they cleaned that and everything was fine but it was leaking inside the unit.
I called Thursday last week and talked with somebody late in the evening then I called again on Friday to make sure that I have an appointment. They said that I can have an appointment on Monday between eight and one, then I asked them to call me an hour before so I can be home. Monday came but nobody called me. I was waiting and at 10 o’clock nothing happened so I called. I spoke with a guy and he said that I don’t have any appointment for that day. He didn't have any customer service at all. I told him to check, and they have my call and I was told that they were going to send me somebody. He said that he didn't have anybody that day so I have to wait until tomorrow.
The technician came and tried to fix the problem. But he needed some parts and he told me that if he was ordering them, it was going to take 10 minutes. But he said that if I want the service to be quick, I can call the office and ask if they already ordered the part, and be on top of them. He was making a suggestion. It was not a good way but I understood so I said that I will help him and call his office. I asked him why I have to be on top of them but he said he cannot tell me, but he ordered the part but he doesn’t know when their office is going to order it. While he was here, I asked him about what happened yesterday and he said that he was sick. Their office should have done something better if I have an appointment and nobody was gonna come and just didn’t say that I don’t have an appointment. Other than that, my experience with American Home Shield was good and they are always on top whenever I call them.

If you’re talking about a refrigerator out or a toaster or a microwave, you can deal with it, but you’re talking about air conditioning in South Carolina in August and two weeks was unacceptable. I got a different answer every time I called. “We’re waiting on parts,” “We’re waiting on a quote from parts,” “We can’t find the parts.” And then I would call back and then, “Well, we’re gonna replace the unit,” and I got the runaround. I had an issue with my air conditioner and I went online to put in a claim with American Home Shield. It was a simple process. I clicked on what appliance I have an issue with and once it was submitted, I waited and got a confirmation. And then, the reps gave me a call and let me know about the scheduling. The contractor came out fast which was within 30 minutes to an hour.
We talked about what was going on with my air conditioner. I told him that when the air was on, it would start going warm but it wasn't getting cool at all. We would have to cut it off each time, reset it and start it back up. I had a service last year from a different warranty company and we were afraid if the same thing was going on. The tech came, checked everything and said the unit was low on Freon. It was repaired the first time and then days later, it wasn't working again. We had to call him back out and he told us that a capacitor had shorted out and he switched that out.
This time, the contractor from AHS said the Freon was out so he recharged the system up and the unit has been working since. He was also recommending the age of the system and that we may have to get a new one down the line. Overall, it was a good experience. My mom has AHS too and if anyone asked, I'd tell them it's a good thing to have but to make sure that they're getting the coverage they want. But once they've signed up, they talk to a representative and it's pretty cut and dried.

I’m not too confident in the contractor that comes out for my air conditioner claim. They don't thoroughly detect everything that could be wrong with the system. They're more in a hurry to get it over with as quick as possible then just go. The air conditioner wasn’t blowing cool air and he probably could have seen and checked the unit while he was here back in the July when I first filed a claim. But he didn't and later on, the same issue became a worse one and ended up costing me more money.
I did the first claim over the phone. Then I did the last one online, which was easy after you've created your log-in. After that, I had to contact the contractor. But the person who came out was like a salesperson. I still don't have any air conditioner and they had to order the part, which he actually ordered today. But he was pretty much trying to sell me a new unit, instead of ordering the part which is covered by the warranty that I have through American Home Shield. That would cost American Home Shield the $3,000 that they would have covered. I would have also been out of pocket almost four grand.
The guy who came out today wasn’t actually the guy who was fixing it. But he did say it would take about a week. Worst case scenario, after dealing with them, I’ll be about two weeks without air conditioning. It wasn’t the best experience. But it was Greenway and it might just be the one guy who works there. I don’t have a problem with American Home Shield and I’d refer people to them. I’ve been with them for the past nine years and I’ve always called and gotten American Home Shield.

The past three work orders with American Home Shield has just been horrible. Every time a technician would come out, they didn’t know where to go and what apartment unit number. I’m overseas. And they would call and wake me up at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. They were supposed to be calling the property manager or the tenant. They also bring the wrong equipment every time so the issue is never fixed. I had tenants without AC, and not being able to use their sink for three weeks. They finally decided to bring in their own people and I paid them. Yet, even though the guys sent by AHS never resolved it, I would still get charged $100 for each work ticket.
Good morning Christopher,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated regarding your most recent AHS experience. I understand your concerns with the delay in service to have several items repaired. I would be glad to speak with you regarding the service fee refund.

I usually submit my claims on the phone with AHS and it is difficult. They need to be more timely when you call them and you shouldn’t have to wait so long to get somebody to help you. Recently, there was a plug at the end of the bar that wasn’t working and when I called it in, I had to try a couple of times before I finally just held on. But the tech they sent was excellent. He knew what he was doing and was very nice. He was also very professional in his appearance, in the way he handled himself, and in figuring out the problem. He ended up coming here twice because he had to call another order in and he did a good job. If I ever call back, I would request that same gentleman to come out because my husband and I both liked him quite a bit.

American Home Shield got Fidelity Appliance Services to come out immediately, but I wasn't too happy with the guy they sent out. He should have looked at the dryer because I thought that it was too hot. But he never pulled the dryer out and he was here for about five minutes. He told me that he didn't do that, so I ended up hiring some people to come out and check the dryer vent. At that time, they showed me that there was a duct tape on the hose which I didn't put in there. When the guy from Fidelity was here, he said that the dryer was fine but it was running way too hot. I've had Fidelity before and they were great, but I was not pleased with this guy at all. He was not interested in anything that I was saying. Anything that I was trying to tell him, he did nothing.

I love American Home Shield. I'm really happy that I've picked them up because the warranty is a great benefit to the homes. When I had a problem with my microwave not heating up, I submitted a claim with them over the internet. In the beginning, there was a problem with the telephone number and they were not able to reach me. They had an old telephone number listed for me through Sears, and it was from the time that I haven't had the AHS service yet. So Sears was calling me on a number that wasn't valid. But that was fixed and all is well. The tech came in and took care of my microwave, and it was a great advantage to have the microwave fixed. Overall, it was a great experience and I'm thankful to have American Home Shield.

It was very simple to file a claim with American Home Shield through over the phone. I did the claim for my hot water heater through the automated system. The hot water heater was ordered and a guy from H & K Plumbing installed it. AHS paid a portion of what was covered and then we paid about $500 out-of-pocket. We had the hot water heater installed in July, and I called the H & K Plumbing several times asking about the inspection but they didn't pull the permit like they said they would. I was a little disappointed with them.
It wasn’t until I left a threatening message stating that I was going to let AHS know that maybe they need to cancel doing business with them because they had not fulfilled their end of the bargain, and as a service that we paid for. So, I called in last week, and they had someone come out today. But everyone at American Home Shield has been awesome when I spoke with them. They’ve been timely with finding the contractors or sending in the contractor information over to me. Everything has been great. It's a great service.

Please reference Better Business Bureau Complaint #**. Anyway, I've been an AHS customer for over 5 years, and have been generally happy with the service, until recently, a couple issues had arose that I could not get satisfaction from AHS, or the companies of the dishwasher and sump pump that were replaced in my home.
First, we had a replacement dishwasher installed in our kitchen. A few days after installation, water was leaking all over the kitchen floor. Because this was a new installation, we were to call GE under the 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Upon looking at the unit, the service person told me that it was installed improperly, and was not covered under warranty. He suggested I contact AHS to get it fixed. AHS continued to refer me to GE in a never ending cycle of eternal telephone holds, and non-service. Also, I'll add that the newly installed dishwasher was a discontinued model.
Around the same time, we had a sump pump fail a year after being replaced through AHS, and had to have the company come out to replace/fix it. The basement was filled with over 4" of water. The sump pump that was originally replaced lasted 20+ years. The mechanic explained that what they get from AHS in order to deal with breakdowns doesn't pay for the kind of sump pump we needed... so I spent $900 on my own to have it replaced with a comparable pump to our original.
With these two issues, I couldn't get anyone to respond, so I went to the BBB. Through a lengthy back and forth, Ms Marcy ** of the AHS branch in Virginia, she authorized a $900 check sent to reimburse us of our sump pump purchase. She offered to have someone come out and look at the dishwasher, and I decided I would take care of it on my own. So I was happy with what Ms ** did for me.
Thinking the issue was solved, yesterday I received a letter from AHS stating that they regret to inform me that my contract would not be able to be renewed! Now this isn't in response to my complaint, is it? Because in over 5 years, I've paid over $5600 in premiums, not to mention the service call fees, and only had 2 issues warranting a complaint. But because of this, I've been terminated?! Really?! So will my Terminix account be next?! Unbelievable. Cowardly, really. Buyer beware... we'll see if this gets put up on the website.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The AC unit off the first floor wasn't cooling and I made a claim for it over the phone. That part was fine since I've used American Home Shield a number of times before. However, it took multiple calls and contractors to get my problem resolved. When the first company called me to set up a time, they wouldn't give a window. They claimed that the kind of call they got from American Home Shield was a rush. They wanted to give me an all-day-long appointment and I told them that wasn't gonna work for me. The lady got very defensive and her tone of voice wasn't pleasant at all. Subsequently, American Home Shield said that that was not the way it was supposed to be, so they ended up setting me up with a second company. The second company gave me a four-hour window and they showed up within that time. They were very professional and they fixed the problem.
American Home Shield's prices are competitive and they have a wealth of contractors that they use. However, every time that it's time to renew, my premium goes up with no warning to me. They should let the consumer know ahead of time that it's going to be the case so that if I choose to go somewhere else, I could do that. Overall I've been a customer for seven years and I would definitely recommend them, which I have to a number of people over the years.

We had the secondary for the AC dripping down the side of the house and the AC company was absolutely clueless. Their guy came out, flushed out the line and said he wasn’t sure why it was still dripping but he said that the primary looked like it might have had a kink in it. He said that he didn’t do that work so we had to have a plumber come out and fix it. Habit Plumbing came out and their guy cut an inch off the pipe, straightened it out, stuck it back on there but still didn’t fix it. it It was something we could have done ourselves. Half of American Home Shield's reps don’t know what they're doing. One gentleman that I spoke with told me I needed to pay another trade call fee for the plumber to come out even though the drip was underneath the AC.
The gentleman from Habit was awesome. He was wonderful, and then the second after the plumber came out and fixed the pipe, the AC people came back out and the guy did the exact same thing that he did the first time that he came out - blew out the pipe again and it did absolutely nothing. He told me, "I don't know why they keep sending me back out here. I'm just a service guy. I don’t fix these things." It was a complete waste of time. We still have a drip. AHS said we had to replace the whole compressor. The AC works fine. It's just a drip down the side of the house, leaving a little rust thing. It was going to be two grand out of pocket because they only cover the compressor and I felt that American Home Shield was a huge rip-off. I'm very dissatisfied with them. We won't renew as soon as the contract runs out.

The most recent claim we had with American Home Shield was for garage door openers, one for a rental property and one for my primary. I filed it over the computer and their site was pretty user-friendly. The problem that I had with the contractor is after they came out, they let us know that it was not a covered service because it was our spring that broke. Unfortunately, it was not a very good discount as they advertised. It doesn’t discount for non-covered services with their providers and I was very overpriced for what I ended up paying for.
They replaced the spring on my primary residence and on the rental property, the same provider was sent out and they didn’t check coverage before providing service. But luckily, they ate the cost because they didn’t do that. Then, they did some additional repairs that they shouldn’t have without authorizing service. So, I got some grief from the company who was handling the repair, but they didn’t communicate well with American Home Shield. Also, I had a microwave replaced in the rental unit and there’s a feature that was at the time above a convection feature. We had some kind of radiant heat option in this microwave that was $1,000 and so getting a comparable unit replaced took me about three months because they were having problems with that. And I had to stay on hold for ungodly numbers of hours just to get this resolved.
Another was that I had one refrigerator at a residence that was better than the current refrigerator I have, so I swapped them out. One repair I did myself because it was cheaper to do myself than to take the unit out of service and replace it. It ended up being better to replace one with another because it was just an ice maker that needed a small part. And then, they tried telling me that that unit was no longer warranty-able, but they were charging me for the warranty on it. We resolved that after about a five-hour conversation on the phone and hold time which I’m not too happy with. If it’s a simple service, it’s okay but if there is a problem, it’s atrocious. Also, if you have something below or above the standard unit, it’s a little bit harder. But if you fight them or you argue for it, as long as you’re being honest, you’ll get what you have replaced for comparable equipment.

My experience with American Home Shield has gone very smooth. I’ve had three items of need and I simply filed online. I was then contacted within 24 or 48 hours and AHS assigned someone to take care of the task, and I paid the task fee. The most recent claim was an air conditioning element that went out and it was resolved yesterday. It has taken a while because it was more complicated than originally construed. I had a telephone call from one AHS' personnel a week ago confirming what would be covered on the air conditioner repair, what wouldn’t be covered, and what my financial obligation would be. Getting the parts in took a little longer than we anticipated and it could be relative to the weather in other parts of the US . We had two days out of air conditioning.
The air conditioning team that was assigned to handle the task resolved the problem. Once their parts came in, they came out and they started the repair and were finished in about three hours. The financial obligation was specific and detailed and it was exactly what was prescribed by the individual call from American Home Shield a week ago. I told my wife that I anticipated it would be higher because there will be complications, but there was none. It was very matter-of-fact and well done. I specifically liked that air conditioning group and I would like to use them specifically because they knew what they were doing and they were very clear. We had an initial problem where the air conditioning went out and it was because of the thermostat. It failed for some reason and was not operating, but they resolved that.
It wasn’t a real overdone thing, but it turned out that once the system started operating from there, and it may have been the case even when the evaporator coil is cold or frozen over which could be true, there was a leak which called a replacement of some other equipment. That leak could not be resolved where you couldn’t just patch it or anything else, and that’s what took the week to have it repaired. However, it was terrific and delightful. The team that AHS sent was really not intrusive at all. They came out and went right to work and resolved the problem, so I was impressed. The tech came back with the repair yesterday and he led the team of four guys. In no time at all, the system was re-invigorated and it has been working properly since then. We are very pleased.
Having sold a home about five months ago and selling another home that I owned in another location where I had lived before, we decided to get a home warranty on it and we got American Home Shield. The people who had the house I’m living in now, which we bought from them a year and a half ago, purchased a home warranty for the house for us before we purchased the house. That was a plus. I told my daughter that she has been in her house for about five years and she needs to have a contractor for the little things like garbage disposals.
In our case, it was a disposal that jammed once and we had a problem on the faucet and it started spewing them. It was a very modern type faucet but apparently, the line developed a leak and it was throwing water everywhere inside the cabinet. We resolved that with AHS and the techs came out. I told my daughter that that we need to get an American Home Shield contractor in her house, too. It made perfect sense and it gives peace of mind.
I don’t mind paying for the service at all and I don’t mind paying the monthly fee. If we have a problem, we pay the task fee. What I like too is the convenience of being able to do it online. Even with the air conditioning, it was the same way. It was initiated online, continued, and they checked with us. Our experience with AHS has been perfect and we are very comfortable with the price and with how everything worked. What I really liked was that when we had a financial obligation beyond the task fee, the organization was able to tell me, “Here’s what we’re covering. Here’s what your obligation is, just so you’re ready." I was delighted the rep told me that and we knew what to anticipate.

But I’ve been in my home for almost 20 years and I’ve had them for 20 years, and I’ve never had any issues.
I did have an issue with one technician though. He came out for my washing machine but he didn't stay for even two minutes. He took the copayment and told me that he had to order a part. But I never heard from him again for a week and I was leaving to go on a vacation. I called American Home Shield and they sent the contractor out. The technician came out again and said he had to order a part. But I never got any results. Still, that was the only unprofessional tech that I had. I told American Home Shield I didn’t want him back in my home anymore because I felt he had no intention of fixing my washing machine. On the other hand, the second technician they sent out saw that the washing machine needed to be replaced. So I got a new washing machine.

On 06/2018 I requested A/C repair. To be noted that I live in S. Florida where during the summer there are over 100 degrees feel like temps. AHS assigned a local company, AAA All Brands Appliances LLC to the repair. The company was unprofessional and took weeks of no show and no work resolution to provide a diagnosis.
A part needed to be ordered and it wasn't until the mid-end of July that AHS reported that the part was still not available, all this while enduring indoor temperature of 85 degrees with over 85% humidity. To remedy the problem AHS agreed to repay me partial reimbursement totaling $100.00 for the purchase of a portable A/C unit, until the repair could be accomplished. (Could not cash the check until final resolution, as the memo listed "in lieu of repair".)
During the two month ordeal, I spent hours on hold on the phone with multiple operators, never allowed to speak with a manager (after request) and opted for a miserable cash out option of $661.00 for a repair that cost me $1,900.00 out of pocket and almost three months of horrid summer temperatures without A/C. I WILL NOT be renewing the contract with AHS.

Initial phone call to AHS I held on line for over 30 min. They dispatched a company and it took 2 days for them to come out. The tech looked at the unit and said easy fix, within 2 hr the unit was not cooling again. Called the company back at 4:45 pm and they were already closed. I attempted to reach AHS and held again for over 30 min again. I was told they will get the AC company back out, but another service charge would apply, which is crazy since they did not fix the issue. The AC company called the next morning, Thursday but could not come out till Friday.
On Friday morning the tech came out and said, "Your meter device is not working. Will order part and try to be back Monday or Tuesday." The tech indicated that the unit may keep cool, but will run constantly, and if it runs 24/7 my electric bill will be extremely high. So here I sit on a Saturday in Florida 95 outside and 85 in my house with the AC conditioning running. The tech did not even call to see if he could get a part right away and gave no definite answer as to when he will return. This AC company is not a small shop. They are a big company in the area, hard to believe he could not obtain the part that day or the next day. Their advertisement indicates they work 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. Just had a terrible experience with American Home Shield trying to get a claim processed on an emergency basis for A/C being out in Tucson, AZ with a high of 105 today. They told us it would be 24-48 hrs. We explained the issue of the heat over the next 2 days and the health and safety concerns of those living there and asked to expedite the request or allow us to get another company. Instead, they argued “our forecast says it’s only going to be 102 today.” And asked what our health issues are? When I said if they are concerned over a 3 degree difference, I can send them a screenshot of the forecast we’re looking at but that that is most certainly not the point.
All we’re asking is if given the extenuating circumstances of the heat, if they can help offer solutions to try to expedite a contractor getting out here. After going back and forth challenging me on the weather and our HEALTH, they simply said “no we can’t expedite this.” Completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and totally useless policy. We have RARELY needed to use this in the 6-7 years we’ve had this policy and the time we do and we need it most, they respond this way. Finally spoke to someone to submit a claim on work that was performed on a Monday and still having the same issue Friday. The rep tells me there’s nothing that can be done until Monday. Not only did I wait a month for them to service the unit with their vendor Total Air Care, but once it was finally done, it went bad again. My house is 93 degrees inside with a severe asthmatic mother and pets, the response of you have to wait until Monday is unacceptable. There was no empathy or sense of urgency. I advise to run and find another provider that cares about their customers and understands the severity of having no a/c.
Good morning Alfredo,
I understand your concerns with the weekend delay to have your air conditioner serviced again with the health conditions at risk. I would be glad to speak with you and get the repairs completed under the recall.

What is most Americans' biggest investment? Their homes. So, when we (homeowners) purchase a product like a home warranty we look for protection of our investment. My home warranty was included when I purchased my home. The home is new to me, but overall it is 14 years old. We (homeowners) are looking for protection with the home warranty, there is trust involved here, between us (the homeowner) and AHS.
This being said, my water heater is dying. I placed the request to have my water heater checked on AHS.com. Within minutes I received a text telling me that a plumber had been assigned and they would contact me shortly. This was 9 PM on a Thursday. At 9 AM on Friday I had not heard from the plumber so I started making calls. After two calls I spoke to the assigned plumber, their next appointment was on Tuesday... but my water heater might be dead on Friday... no hot water Friday to Tuesday, five days?
Also, the water heater is leaking and I can see it on the drywall, mold, water damage? The plumber called AHS to see if an emergency plumber could come out on Friday. Great! Another plumber came and within five minutes of arriving declared that my water heater is indeed dying, it is leaking out the bottom. I will have to wait through the weekend but, sometime in the coming week my water heater will get replaced? Maybe?
Here is the problem. This is the biggest investment of my life... my home. Yet when my home is having a "heart attack" AHS is telling me to relax, "we'll get to you in a week or two, maybe." Communication is not the best with the home warranty. I called AHS three hours after my appointment with the plumber was completed. I told the representative the history. She then told me that the plumber has "24 BUSINESS hours" to input the information that my water heater is dead. How hard is it to enter that information? "Water heater leaking all over the place."
Again you're having a heart attack and the doctor tells you that they have "24 BUSINESS hours" to enter the information in the computer and that is just the admin, the actual treatment of the heart attack follows sometime later, no time or date set. A bit frustrating. And as other reviewers have noted, we have jobs not like we are sitting around just waiting for the plumber to arrive. As of tonight, my water heater is dying. The plumber acknowledged this, but AHS is saying the information has not been input into the system. There currently is no timeline to replace the water heater. Yet, this is a homeowner emergency.
So, AHS, this is your notification. I have the money to pay for a plumber to install a water heater. If I lose hot water at my home, I am going to pay to have a hot water heater installed. I will then promptly cancel my policy with your company, I am tired of paying $75 for a service call to get slow service. I am not going to be held hostage to your "24 - BUSINESS - hour" policy. When I call a plumber, I expect to be treated like a valued customer. I expect prompt service for my prompt payment ($75, plus the upfront payment for the home warranty). Please prove me wrong. I will gladly update this review when I am taking hot showers and there isn't water leaking from my water heater.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We purchased a house that has the original washer and dryer (from early 1990s). Over the past 3 years the washer has had at least 2 breakdowns a year. Each breakdown has resulted in several weeks of having to hand wash our clothes while AHS brings in a contractor who then comes and has to wait for parts and then finally returns to actually fix the problem. For a family with young kids, not having a working washer that frequently (with both parents working) has been extremely inconveniencing. Plus it’s particularly tough on one's job to keep taking days off work to wait for “4 to 6 hour” windows for a technician and then repeat all over again.
I am disappointed that AHS has constantly refused to replace the washer. It would make more financial sense if they add the cost of the multiple repairs. On our end, having AHS has not made financial sense. When we calculated having to pay $75 copay for each repair, the cost of AHS subscription and cost of the multiple times away from work we realized we could have used our money to get a new washer and saved ourselves the consistent inconvenience and lost wages from work. I would not recommend them.\
Updated on 09/24/2018: Continuation and update from my review on AMERICAN HOME SHIELD dated September 15, 2018. After writing the review above, I received a generic response from AHS stating they would contact me to resolve my concerns. I provided them with my contact information. After not hearing back from them for about 4 days, and entering the 3rd week of a broken washer, I contacted their customer service to follow up. After being put on hold for an hour I was first told that the technician from UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR had called AHS that morning to order the parts needed (almost a week after showing up for service). Then the story changed to the fact that the UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR technician said the damage was due to overloading and that AMERICAN HOME SHIELD would not be covering repairs because it was not due to normal wear and tear.
There are several inconsistencies with this: 1. The UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR invoice shows there was an issue with the transmission and I was informed the part would be ordered. 2. UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR also identified that previous repairs (by technicians sent by AMERICAN HOME SHIELD) had inappropriately bypassed the lid switch and that was a safety hazard. 3. The washer was installed in the 1990s, the fact that it has lasted this long is a testament to appropriate use and handling.
I received a response from AMERICAN HOME SHIELD a week after my review. They asked for my information to contact me, which I provided. I received an email days later asking how I prefer to correspond and requested to be contacted by email. Since their email asking for my preferred mode of correspondence, I have not heard back from AHS regarding my concerns.
In the meantime, I caution consumers to beware of AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. They claim to send only the best-qualified technicians to your home; this is not true. UKON APPLIANCE REPAIR has 2/5 stars on local reviews from 38 responses. Most complaints were from AHS customers. AMERICAN HOME SHIELD has sent me information to contact a 2nd vendor to repair my washer. The 2nd vendor is MS APPLIANCE, who have even worse reviews on their service. They have 1.5/5 stars from 37 reviews and have a GRADE F with the Better Business Bureau.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I have a mainline backup in my home. It's causing my basement toilet to back up into my basement shower. I submitted a request to AMERICAN HOME SHIELD specifically for a STOPPAGE. The technician shows up to my home & within 10 minutes he tells me that the main line needs to be snaked out. He then tells me he has no snake on his band to perform the service & that he has to get authorization to do it. This was at 11:30 AM on Friday September 14th. It is now 9:30 PM, I've had the $100 deductible taken out of my account, when I go online to see the status of my request, it says CLOSED.
I call AHS for an explanation, they tell me that I have to wait until they get in touch with the contractor, who (I might add) I spoke to his office earlier today & they told me that they were waiting for the tech to submit his findings. Meanwhile, I'm currently awaiting in a plumber to snake the main line in my home because no cannot use ANY of the sinks or toilets without flooding out my basement. I'm out of my $100 deductible & I still have not heard from AHS or the contractor. I will be cancelling my service contract effective immediately & I will see AHS in a court of law if they attempt to come after me for breach of contract. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!
Good morning Kwame
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you experienced and the service fee that was paid for the diagnosis. I would be glad to speak with you and address every issue that occurred.

This morning a pipe in my ceiling leaked. Had to turn off water to the home. Called American Home Shield. On hold for 30 min, they assigned a plumber who later called and said he cannot come out for 3 days. Called AHS again, on hold 30 min, was told if they could not find a plumber by end of the day to call back. I called back. Was hung up on twice. Called again, on hold 45 min. Gave up. Canceled Call. They are great at taking my money, but when it comes time to get the service I pay for, they treated me like crap. They did not hold up their end of our contract so I will be speaking to an attorney. Here I sit with no water still. Please do not waste your money on this company. I am so disappointed!

When I had a plumbing issue, Hers & His Plumbing Florida came out for it. They’re not responsive to phone calls. The man who was the manager told me that I needed a valve for the bathroom plumbing issue so I called and left a message but they never called back. It seems that I lost a lot of time. American Home Shield wanted to send in the plumber to follow up, but I said that they can’t come in if they don’t have the valve. It delayed the process of getting the part ordered. Even American Home Shield called Hers & His and they were not satisfied with the result. The woman assigned to me in American Home Shield got me a different plumber on a Friday to finish up the project.
They had RR Plumbing come in here on Monday I asked the contractor why was he coming if he didn’t have the part. I sent him a picture and within an hour, he sent back what I needed to order. I got on the line and ordered so then I had the part. He was the only helpful person and I couldn’t have been more pleased. He was on time, professional and he knew what he was doing. I told him that it has been going on for an entire month and I was dealing with another company. He asked me if it was Hers & His and said that they’ve had a lot of calls where they’ve had to go in after them and clean up some messes.
I was not pleased with Hers & His, but R&R Company was wonderful. We were playing telephone tag for days with Hers & His whereas with RR a person answers when I called their number and we got the thing straightened right away. Everything was ultimately resolved. Other than that, when my dishwasher went, American Home Shield sent AZ. They were a new company but their guy was really good. He explained to me what the problem was and told me that the part was no longer available. He noticed that I got a new stove and he said that he could repair those. He went out of his way and said that he wanted to help so that I wouldn't have service issues. He educated me and I appreciated it. My experience with American Home Shield was good and I would definitely recommend them.

The water heater went out and I couldn’t get it to light. I called American Home Shield and they said somebody would be in contact. I looked up the water heater company and contacted them directly. They said that certain part always goes out and they would ship it to me when they have it by Friday. The guy that works for the contractor came on Saturday. I gave him the part and he fixed it.
He had been here one time and he was approachable, helpful, and pleasant. He asked me if there was anything else I want him to look at while he was here. I saw some water underneath the kitchen sink so I was worried that maybe there was a leak and I asked him about that. He was able to troubleshoot the problem and showed me where the water was coming in. It looked like the grouting between that and the counter was worn and I needed to caulk it. He took care of that, fixed it and it was fine. He was excellent, professional, and very capable. I was impressed with him.

The AHS website is easy to navigate and when I submit a claim, it’s online. We just characterize the problem, write a couple of short sentences to what it is and the supplier is contacted. They contact me, come out within a day and I’m perfectly happy. Usually the suppliers show up, identify themselves and ask me one little clarification about what the issue is and then they tell me where we'll start and off we go. The quality of work has always been good and I’ll never be without a warranty.
The filters on our AC were never getting dirty and I thought that was quite unusual and that dust must be going somewhere. We had the unit checked and the technician came in, checked everything out, and saw nothing wrong. He said part of the reason was we don’t have any carpets in the house and there’s nothing to generate that kind of dust. We’ve had other warranties in the past but over the last 15 years, American Home Shield is the one we had the most and they're the best one we’ve had.

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for an ice maker that had a hole in the tube. The process was easy as a pie. The contractor that AHS sent out replaced the tube and it is now doing good. The AHS reps that I dealt with were very professional and took care of my problem. It was my second time filing a claim with them and for nine months that I've been with them, I never had a problem. They're really good. Everybody should have American Home Shield.

An AC technician came out when our AC unit was down, but he couldn’t make the repair. The contractors that American Home Shield send out are normally very good. But this guy told us that he never seen a thermostat like ours. We have an older system and thermostat, and he had to call in another guy. He told my wife that they didn't know how to replace our thermostat and that we may have to rewire the whole thing which would cost us thousands of dollars. It was ridiculous.
American Home Shield had to send another company out a couple of days later. The second contractor told us that it was a simple job with replacing a thermostat, but we had to wait for a couple of days for the repair to get fixed. It only took him 45 minutes to finish the whole job. We paid online a $75 service charge and I didn’t know my wife had done that. I also paid the tech who came up the second time. But I kept getting emails from American Home Shield saying that my contract was gonna be suspended for not paying the service, which I had done twice already. At that point, I gave up.
I kept asking them to make sure my service doesn’t get interrupted and I had called at least three times because I kept getting these emails saying that I had an outstanding balance of $75. So, that was very frustrating. Also, they put me on hold a lot of times. I just wanted some kind of confirmation from whoever I was speaking to. I told them that they could send me an email stating that I have paid my bill and to disregard the emails that were coming. But I never got that. I'm usually very happy with American Home Shield but the last experience we had was a little difficult.

Recently, I had an issue with the AC. I came back from a vacation and it wasn't working. Submitting a claim to AHS was easy. We called them and when I spoke with their rep, everything was pretty quick and to the point. We had an issue with timing and dates and they did everything to push it forward, and get us back up when we needed it. When the contractors came, they checked everything and knew exactly what the issue was. They replaced the fuse and they were gone in less than five minutes. Renewing with AHS was simple as well. I told them that I wanted to renew and they renewed it, and then they sent me my bill. I have already recommended American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim for the air conditioner over the phone to AHS. Submitting the claim went very well and they were very good at quickly sending a contractor out. However, the first contractor I had was horrible. I called them back and told them I didn't wanna work with this person. AHS listened to the problem that I had. They didn't try to convince me to stay with the person when I was unhappy with him. They got me another contractor and had him out here very quickly.
Good morning Eric,
Your feedback regarding your most recent American Home Shield experience is greatly appreciated. I am pleased to hear that we were able to send out another technician and service you in such a timely manner.

I heard a noise in my air conditioner and something wasn’t right, so I sent a claim to American Home Shield. The technician showed up a couple of days later. He identified the issue and repaired it. The guy wasn't instrusive and he did a great job. The only thing I don’t like about American Home Shield is the way the payment process itself. I don't mind paying 75 bucks to AHS, but their payment options are either pay it right after submitting the claim or they will take it out of the account after the contractor was done. I personally don’t like anybody going in my account to take my money out. I would rather write a check or pay with my credit card on my own. So I don’t like that AHS only gives those two options and both entail them going into my account and taking money out.

We couldn't get our jacuzzi to work and we filed a claim over the phone. Two gentlemen came out, checked everything out and they were very pleasant. The problem was an operator error and I never had a jacuzzi before, so I learned a lesson. We've told others to check into Home Shield and see if it works for them, but it is a bit pricey, so a lot of people we've talked to don't think it's worth it. I had a clogged drain and I called American Home Shield. They took my credit card, charged me $75 after it was over, and they sent a good plumber. He was very professional and he also asked if there was any additional problems. I mentioned one other very small problem with the outside faucet and he fixed it immediately. It took about 30 seconds for him to fix it which was disturbing to me because I’m not a plumber. But in any case, I was very impressed with him. Everything has been dandy since he came out.

When we filled up our dishwasher and ran it, we noticed the carpet was wet near it. At first, we thought some ice had melted so we didn't think about it. Then, we ran it again a few days later and filled up the dishwasher. We could see the water coming out from under the dishwasher and going across the carpet. So I called the plumber that I knew in the area and asked if he wanted to look under the dishwasher cause it had a leak. When he did, he opened the bottom and turned the dishwasher on. He then said it has two leaks by the motor.
So I called American Home Shield and the guy from Bill’s came out and looked under the dishwasher and said what the other plumber had already told me. He also added that they will order the parts and they will let us know since it would take them 10 business days to get what was needed. In closing, the folks at AHS were very prompt and the person I’ve dealt with from Bill’s Appliance has been very good and professional. He was on time and called me before he came out. He was also very efficient.
