We’ve had good experiences with AHS. It’s a good service and we’re pleased with it. It certainly comes in handy when something goes wrong. However, every once in a while you get a sour one. Years ago, we had an issue with the dryer and that was a fiasco. It was because of the service rep that worked for the company -- he ended up getting fired. AHS uses different subs and they can’t help it. However, when we had an issue with a leaky toilet, my wife said the contractor that AHS sent out did a good job and he was super nice.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my refrigerator. I did it over the phone and the hold time was a bit long, but it was just a busy time. The rep who helped me out did very good. The first time the contractor came, I wasn’t exactly thrilled, but he wound up being good. He tried to put Freon in it and he said to call him back if it didn’t work. A couple days later, it didn’t do anything and I had a problem getting in touch with him to make the appointment. But dealing with American Home Shield was good. They replaced the refrigerator and that part was easy. The whole process took two weeks at the most. Luckily, it was the second refrigerator so it wasn’t that big a deal. Had it been my only refrigerator, that would be a whole different ball game. I also filed a claim for an air conditioner and the contractors were great. They knew what they were doing. I was completely thrilled.

I called Home Shield for a water heater problem and I don’t like talking to a machine, so I tried to get a human. Once I get a human being, I have no problems. The contractor AHS sent worked on my claim and he didn’t see any problem. All he did was clean it up and put two new pipes on. A week later, the problem was still there. He came back because he didn’t replace the two items he cleaned and then I called to make a new appointment. Some of the contractors Home Shield gets in the area are one-person companies and they’ve only got themselves to do the work, so if they’re overloaded with calls, you gotta wait.
I called the contractor for how many times and soon, he left a message saying that the contract was transferred to somebody else, which it wasn’t. The operator said she had to make another attempt to call him. Something happened and she assigned me another vendor. Since I already knew what the problem was, I handed it to him and he fixed it. We’ve only been in the house for not quite two years yet and all in all, my experience with Home Shield has been good.

My microwave would trip the breaker and then it would run for 10 seconds then trip the breaker and then the thing would go down and then it sparks. I made the claim for it online and worked on the online application. There was a couple of issues about it because it took a little bit longer than I wanted for the techs to get out there and submit what needed to be done. Then I had to call them back to get an update because I hadn’t heard anything from them after that and I thought they just let it go.
Apparently, it took a long time to get the parts in to fix it. It would have been nice to get a text message or email to keep me informed on what was going on. Because with four kids and not having a working microwave, 14 days seemed like an eternity, but overall it was an okay experience. The techs were nice and efficient and clean and we haven't had a problem with the microwave since they came out. Compared to the other warranty companies that I’ve had, they are a little bit better.

I called AHS to submit a claim for plumbing and dealing with the reps has been easy. I explained the situation and they seemed friendly. They told me that they'd be notifying the plumbing company and they will be giving me a call. The plumber came over to take a look at it the first time, but he wasn’t able to do much. He came over a second time, went to the area, then opened it up. He was able to diagnose where the molds were and where the water leak was coming from.
He was helpful, took his time and did a good job. He was patient at investigating the issue and gave his honest and expert opinion on what he thought was the problem. Overall, everything went well. This is our first time having a warranty and it's a great option to have when buying a new home. When we move into a new home, we can't necessarily know all the issues that are there and that's where the American Home Shield policy comes in handy.

I have several appliances that are not working--the dryer, the range above the stove, and the refrigerator. The washing machine also had a problem, but it was working. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the experience was fine. Then, the appliance person came out within two weeks. I also needed help with the dishwasher, but unfortunately, I forgot to tell them about it when I submitted the claim and the appliance person told me that I have to call that in for another claim and pay for a secondary visit.
After the first visit, there was no follow-up. I made five phone calls to American Home Shield and they've been really difficult to get a hold of. I was on hold for 45 minutes one time and 40 minutes on another time. I talked to a manager two different times and when I asked for a manager other times, the representative handled it instead. I also left around five messages with the appliance service provider, but I didn’t hear back from him either.
Finally, last week, I was contacted by the service provider who had come out for the first visit and he asked me to provide him with some more information on the refrigerator. He told me that he put in a work order for both the dryer and the range hood to be replaced and that, in his words, I should have been contacted already by American Home Shield for replacement. However, I have not been contacted by them. I expected that the refrigerator would also be replaced, but he said American Home Shield was sending parts for him to try to piece it together, and so, I am not thrilled.
I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield. There was no follow-up on their side. They told me they were following up, but they didn’t. I got the feeling they were trying to avoid resolving my issue and my impression of them is they were hoping that I would give up and just buy the appliances myself. It's been two months since the claim that has the appliance service provider on it and I still have no working dryer and range hood. The problem with the refrigerator is that it freezes the food in the refrigerator section, so I have to keep throwing food out. That also impacts my electric bill. With the experience I've had, I'm not really excited about doing another claim with them.
Good morning Ms. Lyons,
Thank you for the feedback regarding your experience regarding the claim on several appliances that need to be repaired. I would be glad to assist with the repairs and get the issues resolved.

I have a 26-year-old AC unit and it finally decided to die. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was easy. I did it online and working with the contractor went smoothly. They were prompt, showed up in a timely fashion, and got everything squared away. They ended up having to replace the AC unit. Still, since the replacement, the new AC is working well. It was a lot better than sitting in a 90-degree weather. Overall, I had good luck with AHS. I’ve had to make a couple of claims and every time I’ve had to do it, the problem’s been solved quickly. Given my two experiences, I highly recommend them.

I had them come out and they told me that I could pay now or 2 days after the visit. They immediately took the service charge off my debit card without my permission. I was driving when this happened and I wanted to use another card for payment and was going to pay the next day. They took money without permission. They have never replaced anything in my home and I have had them for over 19 years?? I am going to find another company to work with. They are the worst. No appointment has ever gone right with them. Don't use this company.

In June 2018 I had my air conditioner serviced by one of the contractors that was referred by American Home Shield. They came out. Diagnosed I needed 5 pounds of Freon and there was a leak. Never checked upstairs and proceeded to add some stop leak and 5 pounds of Freon which cost me $400 after the $10 deduction from American Home Shield. In October 2018 my air conditioner stopped working again. Come to find out they sent another contractor out. He diagnosed I had lost 2 1/2 pounds of Freon since then and the coil upstairs was bad and he could see where the stop leak was leaking from the hole. I contacted American Home Shield several times to be hung up on and told there is nothing they can do now. I will be out $980. Plus $400 plus 2 $75 service calls.

Had to use my warranty due to a water leak from my water heater. Technician comes out and says the whole water heater needs to be replaced. AHS basically says they won't cover anything but the technician's service charge for coming out and the removal and disposal fee. I have to come up with the 1100 dollars for a new water heater and installation out of pocket. I don't have this amount so the technician throws a 25 cent cap on the leak and says to get the system replaced as soon as possible. The technician even mentioned how AHS is a ripoff.

On September 2, 2018, my Central Air Conditioning Unit stopped putting out any air. Being a holiday, the next day I called American Home Shield (AHS), who contacted a contractor to come look at the unit (this is the 5th service call in 2 years). The contractor came out on the 5th and stated that the blower motor was not working and they would need to let AHS know and would be in touch. On September 7, the A/C contractor called me to let me know that AHS said they had ordered the part and would have it shipped to the contractor who would then call me and let me know when it would be in.
When asked how long it would take to get the part, the contractor said I would have to ask AHS that question, because they didn't even know why they were having to order it instead of the contractor. The days in North Georgia were in the upper 90s and the temperature in my home in the evenings and nights reached 87 degrees and higher, causing us to go purchase 5 box fans and a window air conditioner, and just being in our home was miserable. After 2 weeks of NO air conditioning in our home, and the contractor still not knowing what is happening, I reach out to AHS who tells me time and time again that they haven't heard from the parts company and will call me when they do.
Around September 19th, AHS tells me the part is on the truck and will be delivered the very next day and they would contact the contractor to get the part installed. After no response for 2 days, I call back and they tell me the wrong part was delivered and I would have to wait (with many, many apologies). I requested a manager or supervisor multiple times in this conversation that was not once acknowledged by the messaging representative, although they did offer to waive the $75.00 service fee (which the rep did not do at this time). Throughout the following week, again multiple phone calls and chat conversations with no results (now nearly a month with no air conditioning).
Approximately September 27-28, I call and request a retention specialist to which I'm told that they can give me the number, but there is no one to take my call. When I call that number, they are offline and the representative will have to fill out the appropriate forms and the retention specialist will call the customer within 48 hours.
When I call back with absolutely no patience, the representative then tells me that they will have an escalation specialist call me. After the escalation specialist calls me back and I go over everything for then what seems like 100th time, she assures me she will look into the issue and call me back, which she does promptly. She assures me she will make sure the service fee is waived as promised, which she does promptly and sends me an email stating it is done, and states that the part is scheduled for delivery in the next 2 to 3 days according to the parts company and the tracking number. That would put delivery approximately on Friday, October 5th- 8th.
Update: Today is Wednesday, November 10th. I just hung up from AHS who tells me that the part was not delivered and that he attempted to call the parts company. There was no answer and he left a message requesting the status on the part. He also was empathetic and stated he also requested another resolution representative get involved since it is now over a month with no resolution. After 5 service calls and several thousand dollars, why hasn't this unit been replaced since the A/C contractor stated they have recommended it several times. I did speak to another A/C contractor who told me they could have the part delivered and installed in 5 days. Where is the promise of service and excellence that AHS advertises and promotes. This service is unacceptable and inexcusable.

The first repairs I had with AHS were very good! I have to give credit where credit is due. I have been without a refrigerator since 9/18/2018. The first repair net never showed up and they did get me another one who was very good. I waited about a week and a half for him. Then he said the part was no longer available. The appliance company came on October 3 and they sent the report on October 4th to AHS. I have called numerous time about this and it is October 10th and they said they have it into the parts dept.
I talked to a supervisor two days ago named Shellie and she promised to give me an answer by Tuesday morning well never called back and she promised she would. Talk to more people that day each with different story. This morning I called and spoke with two different people. Guess what two different answers. I actually started crying with the second person. What does a person do? I was with Old Republican first and they were a little more expensive but they were great. I changed because American Home Service gave me a better price. Can anyone help me please? Please?

Our claim was reported to AHS on 9/21 regarding repair of our hot water heater. We paid the service fee upfront. Automatic response from AHS that I could not be contacted (I have no missed calls or voicemail messages). Automated email response from the AHS selected Contractor (Plumbing Company) requesting an email to schedule service. I sent 4 email responses (no answer) and placed 3 phone calls to the Contractor over 12 days. Each time I was left on hold averaging 30 minutes and never received an answer.
Finally, on 10/2, 12 day after our claim, I called AHS and the rep immediately got the Contractor on the phone. He was rude but we scheduled a service call for 10/4. While the technician was friendly, rep during the follow-up call with AHS informed us that we would have to pay $900 out of pocket for "modifications" required by the Contractor. AHS would pay for the water heater replacement labor but we would first have to pay $900 to the Contractor. We contacted another local plumber to come and evaluate (the next day was his response time) and learned that the "Modifications" were unnecessary and that we could get a new unit for cost of the unit and installation. We now have a new working unit with no assistance from the Home Warranty. We paid $100 to AHS for nothing but dodged the $900 additional cost that they attached to this job.

I had this group for year for my rental. When I finally had a washer and hot water heater go out I placed my service calls thinking I would finally get my money's worth. Getting in touch with AHS is ridiculous, my last call I was on hold for 20 minutes. The service people are nice enough but don't have the authority to make things right. When they kick you over to supervisor no one answers. The vendors they use are even worst. I think the vendors know how to work AHS to get as many trip fees as they can hence prolonging the repair. My dryer took over a month to get repaired and my tenants were not happy as you can imagine. Water heater took 3 weeks before they decided to replace. In replacing the vendor wanted to charge $1400 for install and so called code updates. I got a local plumber and it cost me $750 for everything along with the wasted $100 I already spent on AHS!
My dishwasher at the rental just went out and they tried to set me up with the same vendor I had for the dryer, are you kidding me? I called and changed vendors and reviews and issues reflect the same with them as it relates to AHS. At this point I have decided to forgo using them and simply replaced from Best Buy because I can't deal with the issues I had again. DO NOT USE THIS GROUP!!! I hope there is a legitimate home warranty out there that I can count on.
Good evening Matt,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have your plumbing and leak repaired in a timely manner. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the issues resolved.

On renewing my service I was given a discount on my contract. This was never applied to the bill. After getting past due notices and text messages saying I owed them money I went through 6 different customer service reps who just wanted to tell me it would be taken care and never bothered to see it through. Worst customer service experience ever. If they get paid to act like they care they don't do a very good job at even that!

I’m a customer as of around 4 years. Very disappointed in your company recently. When I call, I get people hard to understand in other countries, am switched to a number of people that have to start from scratch and document and don’t handle the problem. Today I was on hold for almost an hour and then hung up on. I am waiting for a cash out check which I’ve not received and supposedly mailed Sept 11.
I was told over a week ago that I was to receive a check any day, and would be able to apply the amount towards the repair of an A/C unit. I was then sent by a woman at AHS to billing so I would be able to find out the exact day the check was sent. After several times of being sent to other departments, along with being asked each time to explain all over again and then put on hold over and over, I reached your appliance department, which I finally opted to try. Hoping by chance they pick up, and they did. They were nice enough because of my frustration to do some digging and said a check was sent out already Sept 9th. Yesterday since (beginning of October) I had still not received it.
I called again, then I was told it was sent Sept 11th, 2018. The unit has not been fixed and I’m waiting for a check to put towards the cost. I was told I could put the check towards the repair and send proof it was fixed so that the unit would continued to be covered. I’m tired of getting mixed messages. I’ve never opted to get a cash out but in this case it would save money so I did it. All the $20 a month I’ve spent in 4 years and items fixed in which I know they’ve made plenty of money on. Now I’ve waited around a month to get money from them? There is also nowhere to email a department anywhere that I’ve found? Only option is to enter info and wait for a callback or call and get passed around. It now seems this has not been worth it.
Hello Colette. I regret to hear that you have had an issue with receiving your cash-out check and have not gotten the service that you deserve. We will have a representative from our Social Media department contact you to assist you further.

I have never had a home warranty before. We purchased one for a home we bought in North Carolina from American Home Shield. I was skeptical, since I have heard some horror stories regarding home warranty companies. American Home Shield proved there are solid companies out there! After a few months of owning the property, the air conditioner unit for upstairs part of the house went out (during a hot part of the year here.) We put in the claim request and American Home Shield had a company to our home the very next day. They had our unit repaired with NEW parts and we were back to normal in less than two days. The out of pocket for us was zero! I would highly recommend American Home Shield to anyone. Great customer service!!! Thank you American Home Shield!

Submitting claims online to American Home Shield is great. I would just go to the website and put in a repair request. However, it's a disaster if I ever try to call them. They don't ever accept the phone and I'd be on hold for hours. If I have a question about coverage and I need to talk to somebody, then that's a problem. I wish they'd answer the phone and have more knowledgeable representatives. So, when I understand the issue and understand if it's covered or not, then it's easy to do it online.
Most of the claims I had went smooth and the contractors were all good. There was a time when had a problem with a vent fan for the stove. The vent fan was mounted on the roof and the first several companies that came out wouldn't go up on the roof. It took a while to find a contractor that could do it but we got it all worked out. In the most recent claim, Amtech Services came out for my refrigerator that wasn't cooling. The contractor came in, figured out what it was, replaced some part, and everything started working again. It took him 30-45 minutes which was very quick. Overall, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

When the air conditioner broke and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim, it took forever to talk to someone. I was on hold for at least half an hour and we finally hung up. I called back and although the one I spoke with was pleasant, I was constantly being put on hold and nobody came back to follow up. On the other hand, the contractors were timely and they responded fast. There was not a lot of flexibility when it came to setting the time but they did a fantastic job and it was professional. Since then, the air conditioner has been working fine. Every time I called them and requested for help, somebody was out to solve the problems and I didn’t have to do anything about it as well as the cost. AHS gives me peace of mind. If you need something big for your house, someone's gonna get there and there's somebody who can have it taken care of. You don’t have to come up with the cash out of pocket.

The springs that operate off of the motor to roll the door up and down, one of them had broken, and it needed to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and their rep asked me if I wanted to pay the upfront fee right then or wait until after the service has been completed. I always tell them, “I want to wait till after it’s completed.” They charge our service fee on that. I sign off on the invoice when it’s completed and the company that they sent out sends the invoice to American Home Shield, and we never have to get involved in that part of payment at all.
Their reps are very helpful and are good with getting somebody out here. I did have an issue on the previous call though. The refrigerator broke down on a Friday, which always happens, and the service people that they called couldn’t get out here until Tuesday or Wednesday the following week. I called them back and they did contact another repairman who came out the next day but the parts had to be ordered. It still took a couple of days but that’s standard. There isn’t much they can do to speed up a repair person.
The contractors that they send out are professional. They identify themselves and usually have the proper things that they need to complete the job. They will tell you about the condition of the appliance that you have. There is no pressure to do anything more or less. When we had an issue with an air conditioner, we had to pay for Freon to have it put in. That was not covered by our contract and they were right upfront with it, showed us what was in the contract, and we checked it with ours. Everything is working fine now. When the contractors come out, they'd say, “If you have any problems with it, you got any problems, just give us a call.” I’ve never had to do that and I would not want to be given another service fee. But American Home Shield said that if they have to come back on the same problem within 30 days, there will not be another charge. So, I’m very pleased with that.
The previous plan we had that we stayed with when we bought the house did not cover my refrigerator, washer and dryer because they weren't there originally. It would be an additional fee. So, when I switched to American Home Shield, part of the reason is that I could exclude a couple of things that I really couldn’t care about and add my refrigerator, washer and dryer. You have the option to cover only your major appliances, if that’s what you so desire. Something I had never known. I like the idea that I can pick the things that I want covered and what I pay is based on how you do that, and the service fee and annual fee are adjusted accordingly.

He knew what he was doing and he was excellent. I had an issue with the one prior that who never showed up and kept me waiting for hours. I also have another apartment that I have a warranty on and it was a nightmare. I couldn't get the heating system fixed and the techs never got back to me. The most recent claim was with a refrigerator that was broken, and we submitted a claim for it online. American Home Shield's site is very user-friendly. The contractor came out and he was excellent. He did whatever he needed to do. He ordered a part and once he received that, he came back. That was a five-day turnaround. However, he wasn't able to install the part because of the way our refrigerator was. He ended up having to replace the refrigerator, which was a little bit more downtime. In the end, we got a new unit and that more than made up for it. I'd definitely recommend using American Home Shield.

When I called American Home Shield and made an appointment with the K&K Heating and Plumbing people, the reps at AHS told me they were coming. But then, I went online and read the reviews, and I freaked out. So I called AHS again and they told me they were gonna send another people. The people they were supposed to send didn't call me so I called them and the guy I spoke with was rude. He said he didn't get my request. So I called AHS back and they told me that I can't change contractors when they're in the middle of something just because I have read reviews online. So I told them to send the original one which was K&K.
I have to admit that all those things that were written about them were absolutely not true. The guy who came to my house and the guy who called were the two most professional people around. The guy who came explained to me what he was doing. When he came to the house, it was a perfectly nice day. There was no mud or anything but he put something on his feet and walked downstairs. He did the whole thing and took care of it. Then, he literally cleaned up after himself, took everything out, even the things that he repaired. He was also extremely polite. Other than that, when I got notifications from the guy at the other place, who said that he didn't have any of my stuff, I called AHS and I waited on the phone for three hours. That was insane. I did go online to set up the account cause I got better things to do. In the end, though, the hot water heater works perfectly since the repair.

My washing machine stopped running, so I called American Home Shield and it took them a week to send somebody out. The claim was sent through Sears and a tech from A&E came out. He got the machine running and asked if I can do half loads, lightweight loads, and low-spin cycle. He also said that I might be able to get the machine working through for another week and hopefully, by then, AHS would have the parts and they would have somebody out to fix it. The machine worked for about three days, then it quit working. AHS sent somebody out to put the part in, but the machine still didn’t work right. It ran for three loads then quit, so I called AHS and they sent somebody else out.
I told the tech that the machine was making noises. He was ready to pack things up, then he said that he was gonna run one last test. After running the test, he said that the machine needed an actuator and a control board, although he said, for the longest time through all his series of tests, that the machine never showed that there was anything wrong with the control board. The parts were ordered and sent to the house and another tech was also sent out to install the parts. At first, one of the parts arrived and, in the scheduling department, they thought that all the parts had arrived and they moved my appointment up to three days without calling me, but I managed to stop them from sending somebody out when all the parts hadn’t arrived yet.
The appointment pushed out from Friday to the next Tuesday. The tech showed up and put in the actuator. He ran a bunch of diagnostics and said that he was not getting any codes to say that the control board was bad, so he couldn’t install it. The machine is running now, so American Home Shield won’t send anybody out again, although it’s still not working right and there is an issue with the control board. Yesterday, the machine was trying to spin while it was still full of water. The control board was telling the wrong things to activate at the wrong time. The control board was ordered, but the other tech didn’t bother to put it in and he wouldn’t listen to me. He said that it was not showing an error code and that he was not allowed to put it in. The techs that have come out have all come from different offices and they can’t pull up what had been looked at. They have to redo the tests all over again for some reason.
My experience with American Home Shield has been great, except for the problem I had with one of the contractors. Calling in a claim has always been a simple process, although I end up being on hold for half an hour to 45 minutes. If I do it online, I can’t talk to somebody and it doesn’t give me all the options as to what needs to be done. We also had a plumbing issue when my water heater went out and both of my bathtub faucets started leaking. Although the water was still on, it wasn't working right and I called AHS. However, that night, it quit completely, so when I called back, they asked what we were looking at as far as the timeline went and I said that we sent the claim already to one company.
I also told them about the faucet and they said that it was all one claim. When they sent the contract over to another company, they did it faster, but they ended up not transferring the faucets. When I called AHS back, they said that it should have been on all one claim. It took them four weeks to get it figured out not to bill me for the second one.

There was an issue with my air conditioning recently and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. It was easy for me to call them but I had to wait a little bit. Sometimes they're busy but it's better to call them. Consolidated Mechanical, the contractor that AHS sent, helped a lot. They tried to come on time and they were very friendly. They cleaned some parts of the upper unit and provided some maintenance outside. Since they came out for the service, the AC has been working well.

For some reason, the plastic on the door of our microwave over the stove started cracking up into the glass door. I easily filed a claim and the contractor AHS sent was very helpful. He was great. Everything is resolved and we opted to get a microwave that we bought ourselves and I'm supposed to get reimbursed once I get the paperwork back in for the credit. In this area, AHS has a guy who helped us with our refrigerator as well as with our stove and microwave. He explained and showed what he was doing along the way and I better understood how my appliance works. He is highly knowledgeable and I really like him. He's very good, dependable and there right when he says.

My electric went out in my garage and I submitted a claim with AHS online. Their site is easy to navigate, but it takes a few days before someone gets back to me, even if it's an emergency. When the contractor came out, it didn't take him any time to fix the issue and my aunt had a good interaction with him. He explained everything clearly to her and then he also got on the phone with me to explain what was going on and he was very pleasant. Everything has been great since the repair. It's been a good experience and I've had no issues with AHS. And when I had issues with their contractor, they were on top of it and took care of the issues as quickly as possible. I’ve recommended American Home Shield to people and I tell them that they need to get it.

I had a plumbing issue and I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone. I always speak to a representative when I file a claim and my experience with them has been pretty good. My plumbing claim got resolved in one visit, but on the same day, I was having trouble and they had to order a part for it. Then they had to come back out on it. The contractors have been okay but if they gotta order a part, it usually takes them a while to either tell you or get back with you, and tell you when that part should be coming in or if it came in. A few times I had to call and ask when should they be looking to receive that part. Then they give me an update from there. For my claim, they got the part in three to five days. Other than that, I’ve told a few people before about AHS.

We just moved into a new house and a lot of surprises came up. There were a lot of pool incidents and there was also a plumbing incident. So, I’ve had several claims with American Home Shield. I submitted the claims online and their site was good. However, personally calling them was not so good. I had questions I wanted to ask and I wanted to interact with them personally, but nobody seems to answer the phone. It takes forever and the waiting is not good.
The gentleman that came most recently addressed the plumbing issue and checked the flow. There was a backup with the flow, pertaining to the downstairs bathroom. although it cleared itself, so he didn’t have to do anything. He also found an issue with the toilet itself and resolved that. The bolts were kinda worn and the toilet was kinda shaky, so he replaced them as well as the wax ring and everything has been working good since then.
I don’t completely downplay American Home Shield, but I don’t plan on renewing next year. I’ve already dealt with home warranty providers and my previous home warranty was with First America, but I never had issues with them, so I plan to go back to them. I feel that every claim that I put in with American Home Shield is like patchwork. Anything that would require dollar signs is never covered. My pool is supposed to be fully covered and I’ve had incidents where they came out already, but they told me that it is not covered. They don't give me details as to what is covered versus what isn’t, and those are the issues that I’m dealing with.
I also don’t like their customer service as far as calling them. I had a claim with the pool and they sent out a technician. They were using this company and I requested to use them again because the tech already knew the standard with my pool. The person came out for a relay issue with the control panel for my pool, the electrical, and he was able to resolve the problem with no problem. His expertise, as well as his mannerism, was great and I wanted to use him again. However, AHS couldn’t honor that and I couldn’t use him again. They said that the company didn't come up and that they had to go with whatever was on their list. They gave me the two options to use that were on their list. It was kinda weird and the communication wasn’t there.
The technicians have all fulfilled their jobs and I wouldn’t downplay them in any way. I just had some issues with AHS. For example, if I would’ve known ahead of time that a technician would come out, I would have to pay a deductible only for them to tell me it’s not covered and that could have been easily circumvented over the phone versus wasting money and time for somebody to come out. AHS was recommended to our realtor when we purchased this home, so they were the ones that opted to get them. If it was up to me, I would have chosen who I was used to. Still, my claims with AHS were satisfied.

We normally call to file claims with American Home Shield and we usually get a hold of somebody, but sometimes we don't if it's late at night. Our experience with the contractors depends on the contractor. We've had two contractors come out and AHS couldn't control them. One time, I ruined four tiles in my basement because they got dropped on. AHS sent out a contractor but they took forever to come out and they didn't like to deal with the insurance. The tech messed up and didn't get the job done, and I had to go back to fix it. At another time, we had a pipe that leaked, but the contractor didn't do the job all the way and I had to do it myself because the tech didn't do it right. My carpet got flooded and it was such a mess. AHS got the plumber to fix my pipe, but my homeowner's insurance had my carpet fixed. But what sucks about that is that my personal mortgage went up.
The good thing, though, was that the contractor that AHS used filled out an affidavit for me because I was charged $50 every time the main valve was shut off. So, I couldn't save much. When we bought the house, we had no idea where the shut-off valve was. It was not in the sidewalk on the other side, but it was smack in the middle of my front yard. Also, the sewage cost was doubled based on my water bill. So, my bill was $400. Other than that, AHS has been great and they got the job done. In fact, I told a buddy that we have a warranty with AHS.

My washer needed a replacement lock so it would recognize that it was closed. I submitted a claim online on American Home Shield's website and put in the type of appliance and I got an email back that it’s in the system. Usually, I got an email saying that the repair has been scheduled, then I got a call from the contractor to schedule the service call, which was typically the next day. When the contractors came out, the communication and interaction I had with them were excellent and very friendly. They looked at the problem and fixed the problem, and that made me happy. Each contractor is different because it’s a different company. But the contractors ave been very courteous, considerate, and quiet in getting the work done. They focused on the work and got it done, and they were very friendly in explaining options.
We had a previous incident with a refrigerator cooling problem and the contractor gave me options in fixing a slide that was also broken but wasn’t covered by the AHS warranty. They were very informative in sharing information and options that were outside of the item that needed to be repaired. I've got three teenage and older boys and the washer is a required item in the household, and everything has been operating perfectly since the repair. AHS has been efficient, reliable, and super cost-effective in terms of alternatives. My overall experience with AHS has been excellent and I wouldn’t pick a warranty company other than them.

One of the blower fans of my AC was initially making a little sound and suddenly the sound increased until it was really bad and we had to shut it down. I called American Home Shield and they took the claim and sent some local people. AHS has sweet people working for them. Unfortunately, it happened on Friday night and Saturday and Sunday. They tried to find somebody to be there on weekend and those people never responded. Air Temp was the first available. The guy came in time and I was not at home. My daughter showed him and he said they had to order the part.
Their technicians were good, but their office people was kind of knuckleheads, especially one lady. She was having very indifferent attitude. We have kids at home and I have an elderly person visiting us and there’s no way, we have to get him out of there. I made a request to expedite the service and that one lady said it would be done when it is done. There's no way some part will take about seven days. She said it’s about two weeks, excluding holiday and weekend. That was not believable. My AC was not built in Mars. She was some character. Every time I called, I asked for her supervisor number and she said she didn’t have any supervisor. I told her to give me anybody and she gave me the number of some office manager. I left about 202 messages and that wonderful person never called back.
Later on, there was another lady, named Lori. She was pleasant and sweet. She apologized and suggested I call AHS and have them expedite something and they may call the manufacturer,. Six days have gone already, but at least her customer service was better than it was. She did not do much, but at least her respect level was better than before. Eventually, the part came in and after the reappointment was made they came in and fixed it. Things started going okay so far.
I have no problem at all with Home Shield. I used to be with them long before, when I was in town hall about 10 years before and then I had used other company in between and they were nothing but deception. I was stuck with them three years. After about six months left with that warranty, I shifted back to AHS and I’m pretty happy. I recommended them to other people and one of my friends took them too.

He was very quick to respond to the notice from American Home Shield to him and to us. As far as the pump itself, it was put in fine. I’m very pleased with American Home Shield. Their price did go up as far as what you pay the person who comes out. It used to be 75, now it’s 100. And now, you no longer pay them directly. American Home Shield takes it directly out of your account after the service has been performed.
We had a person that they had assigned to come out for our washer and we weren’t really pleased with him. We had to call him out three different times and I think it has to do with the contractor sometimes that are used. He came out three times until he finally found out what the problem was. AHS sent a company out and stated the people who install the unit didn't install it correctly. So AHS denied the claim. AHS stated would I like a second opinion and I stated yes. They came out and I never heard back from AHS after 48 hrs which they were to contact me in this time frame. I received a quote of price to fix from first company and had them come and issue the compressor. The tech was also going to fix the install issue in the breaker box, but found out he made a mistake and stated he would contact AHS and he made a mistake on the first diagnostic so the compressor would be cover.
Remind you I have free lifetime parts on the units just need labor cover. AHS stated they will not cover due to what the second opinion tech stated, which I still have no idea what he stated 'cause I never heard from AHS. This is not the good part. If AHS who had cover the compressor which have lifetime warrant from Goodman. I still would be out about $2000 due to they don't cover for Freon. What the purpose of having a warrant for a/c if you still out of $2000. I'm finish with AHS. Closing my account after 20 years of service to them, and this how you get treated. Super disappointed, I used to really be happy with my warranty from AHS but I guess they were bought out by another company and ever since the service has gone way down. They sent out Miller Appliance (F rated with the BBB and Angie's List) who was 2.5 hours late for the install appointment, no call. The tech finally showed up (at 7PM??!!) in an Amazon Delivery shirt so I can only assume this is his second job. Fixed the electronic board on the washer and the ice/water dispenser in the fridge and now the dispenser is dripping water down the side and the washer is pouring water all over the floor every time it's used which it has never done before in ten years. Basically he was in a hurry and didn't get either put back together right. He finally left at 8:30pm at night.
Amber (the owner of Miller) is so rude and obnoxious that it is impossible to have a normal conversation with her. She screams over me and won't let me get a word in. Called me a liar and said I owed her an apology because I complained about the faulty repair??!! Then transferred service to Appliance Network (also F rated with the BBB and Angie's List) who was almost as rude as Miller. He said if I wasn't nice he would just transfer me to another company. He then said, "you're rude, bye!" and hung up.
AHS does not care, the 888 number goes unanswered for a MINIMUM of 30 minutes if not more. Chat was ok but she just wanted to get me done and out of the queue. She really didn't want to help. Still waiting on yet another company to show up this Thursday. A total of 3 weeks now without a washer and I have two kids. I'm a single mom, I have a warranty so I don't have to stress about these things but it seems like AHS and the "bottom of the barrel" contractors they hire just cause it. I'm better off without it. :(

After submitting an initial claim and speaking with AHS, they selected a plumber who would not service my home. By the time they heard back from that plumber and found a few plumber, 3 days had passed. Eventually the new plumber came and determined, like my plumber, that the water heater was leaking and broken. They submitted the report to American Home Shield. 7 days passed before any action was taken. During that 7 day period, when I called, I needed wait on hold for over 40 minutes each time, I was told it was with the approval department and needed to wait for their determination. After 7 days, I was told they actually needed more information from the plumber, while the plumber told me, they were waiting on AHS.
After 9 days, I was told that the water heater had been ordered but would take another 5 days to be shipped to the plumber. At that point, I could reach out to the plumber to install the new water heater. In total it will be over 2 weeks without hot water (2 weeks of not being able to take a warm shower would leave you upset too). While working with vendors may take time, waiting on hold for over 40 minutes each time you call combined with a system that does not provide updates, is a horrible customer experience. I will not be renewing my plan after my contract is up. I recommend finding a different provider.

Home Shield sends second technician to verify, and they do in fact verify that the machine can't be repaired. We order a new machine on September 26th and are told it would take 5-7 days for delivery. October 8th was 7 business days. We had heard nothing about the delivery, so we called American Home Shield. They advised us that it would be another two weeks - Oct 23rd!
The math isn't hard...two months without the clothes washer that we paid to have covered under the American Home Shield warranty. First and foremost I shouldn't have to hold on for an hour every time I need to reach a company. This isn't a once in a while issue. It's every time! Consider expanding your customer service or even allowing phone callbacks. I can't be sitting here all the time waiting on someone who's gonna just tell me, "We will call you back 3-5 days," and then never call me back and then I got to hold another hour to be told same thing over and over.
Now that this complaint is out of the way let's talk about how they employed a Plumbing company that was rude and disrespectful to the customer just shy of calling me a liar when we said they were told we approved the repairs and they never came. Was told it was impossible. Only two ladies work there and neither of them took the call. Interesting since the owner is a male and that's most likely who we spoke to. Guess not so impossible after all. Then when I said hold on a moment I need to get the person on the line that spoke with him they hung up on me. Then when I called back they said, "Oh we knew you would be a problem." Actually, no. I expect a certain amount of respect.
We decided we did not want to work with this company and AHS decided not to help us find another plumber on our own and cash out. So, we did and then called to turn in receipts and I was first told, "Well we have to see if it is approved." No, you guys told us to do this we shouldn't have to go through approval process after the fact. Then I was told we will have someone return call 3-5 days (at this point not even collecting my receipts) and no call two weeks later. Now I am on hold again for an hour... Who knows what crazy answer I'll get if I ever get anyone on the line... It's lunchtime. I don't want to die of hunger waiting by the phone for a company that doesn't like to answer calls.

AHS sent me a email suggesting a Pre-Season Heating Tune-up for the fee of $75. Good Idea so we signed up for it and they promptly took the payment out of our account and assigned us to Sweet Mountain Air Cooling and Heating Inc. An appointment was made and Dave from Sweet MT Air never showed for the appointment. Wouldn't return our calls. Finally AHS we were reassigned to Chrispy Air and they promptly contacted us to set up an appointment but was told AHS would not pay for them for this service because our air/heating unit is on the roof.
Two days, 4.25 hours of holding on the phone with 6 different service reps, (Thomas, Paul, Trish, Won, MJ) 5 cut offs after being on hold while they were checking for us. We still have no service for the $75 we paid. I really doubt that we will ever see that $75 again. Good lesson on our part. Now I am wondering how hard it will be to get service for a major problem? Very unhappy so far. Be aware of issues and be prepared for LONG waits, CUT OFFs and lots of runarounds and no service for the money you prepay.
Thank you for your response, Joan. You should be contacted by one of our Social Media Response Team members prior to the end of this business day. AHS looks forward to assisting you with your service needs.

My water heater flex hose burst at 6:00am. I had to turn off the water to the house. I made a request and waited, and waited. I spoke with two different CS reps, after holding each time over 30 min. Absolutely nothing from them or the plumber they assigned to me. It is now more than 24 hours without water. I am desperate, I had to call another plumber on my own dime. DO NOT go with AHS.

During a thunderstorm in August of 2018, I begin to have some electrical issues in my garage and several rooms in my house. I immediately tripped my breakers and it reset most of the issues but not all, so I called AHS and after holding over 45 minutes, over 2 day period. I was finally able to speak with a representative, who put me in contact with Riggins Electrical Company. The company was not able to provide service until Friday between 4 and 5 and when the service technician showed up he wasn't at my home for more than 15 minutes.
I was also just discharged from the ER so my neighbor was there monitoring the situation. My GFCI outlet was melted and burned out but the service technician did not change it, although my neighbor advised him to do so. He plugged in my freezer that was located in my garage and he told me that I just needed my electrical breaker reset, which he did and left. However, when I arrived home from work on the following Monday I had water and blood streaming from the freezer in my garage. It turns out that he plugged my freezer into a GFCI outlet that had blown out and melted, blowing up my freezer and causing me to lose my food.
After attempting to call AHS several times, I called the Electrical Company back who said I would have to contact AHS to get the technician to come for second service call. The representative at the Electrical Company told me the electrician did not fix the problem with the outlet because it was not listed on my initial service order. The representative from the electrical company was able to call AHS and was able to get someone on the phone less than 10 minutes we conferenced called and it was decided that a technician needed to return to fix my issues.
At the time of the call, I was told that AHS would replace my mini fridge but not my freezer which had also blown out when we attempted to find the problem with the freezer. Early the next morning, the electrician came and told me he was only coming to change out my GFCI outlet as a courtesy because it was not listed on the initial service order. I went back and forth with him and told him that was not true that I have reported all the issues to AHS the first time I called...
I had to call AHS back to inquire when they plan to reimburse me for my mini fridge and freezer. The customer service representative at AHS told me that they would have to review the recorded calls and once her supervisor comes in they would give me a call back with their findings, but they never did. I attempted to call several times after them but was left on hold for almost 2 hours once and another time my call was inadvertently dropped.
I called back and spoke with someone in the payment department and I canceled my service right away. Although I tried to call back several times after, I have never been contacted by anyone from AHS regarding my loss or the multiple letters that I have been sent or two service charges that were not properly dictated. In my opinion, I think that a AHS are scammers and lack Integrity as a company and I pray for the day that they no longer exist to take advantage of hard-working Americans!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I have had American Home Shield over 4 years now and have experience both ups and downs with this company. However, the current situation I am experiencing tops the cake!!! The average person knows that when you wash clothes they are supposed to come out clean not with spots, correct?! Well, obviously not the people at American Home Shield. I have been dealing with them fixing my washer machine for the past month. Then everyone at AHS wants to call you back or place you on hold for extended periods of time to review the notes or they never call you back. It all began at the end of August when I called in about my washer machine leaving spots on my clothes. The tech came out and identified what he thought the problem was and immediately stated, "They should replace it because it is not functioning as it should. I am going to let them know the outcome and they should be contacting you shortly."
Well, a few days went by with no call from AHS. So, I called in and then was informed the tech did not mention it needed to be replaced and that another tech would have to come out at no charge. So I contacted the tech at Appliance Connect and they informed me that they had actually spoken to someone and AHS said they did not cover damage to clothes. I then informed them that AHS stated they would need to come back out again. So that's what happened, they came out again still the same outcome. I totally understood they weren't going to cover the damage to the clothes however, I needed them to fix the problem that was occurring that was causing the damaging.
I then contacted AHS again and was informed the same thing by a very rude tech. She said that the washer was functioning properly and they did not cover damage clothing. Ummm...how is it functioning properly if you put clothes in and they come out with spots that are being caused by the washer. I asked to speak with a supervisor. Once the supervisor was on the phone she informed me she understood totally and decided to take it from there and send it up a little higher to see about getting the problem fixed and the part that was causing the spotting replaced. She was able to get the issue taken care of and informed me that someone would be contacting me the next day which was a Friday.
Well the next day never came. However, the next week did and I contacted them that following Monday afternoon since no one had called me that Friday. I called in and the young lady informed me that she didn't see all the information I was referring to and placed me on hold for at least 25 minutes only to come back to the phone and say she was able to locate it and someone would follow back up with me once they received the estimate to date from the service company. She said it would take possibly a day. Well a week passed and I contacted the service company and was informed they had already provided that information.
So, I called AHS AGAIN. This time to be informed that it was in the options department and someone would call me. Well, that was last week and here we are TODAY and no call from the options department! However, one of the representatives from AHS did call on Friday to inform me that options had called and left a message. However, I never received it and she informed me that they had a cash offer and a couple other options but they would have to tell me because she wasn't sure. She went on to tell me the cash option amount and stated to "go buy a washer and then we will reimburse you".
After all of the things, I have gone through this past month what person would just go buy a washer without any additional information about reimbursement and the long run around and wait for a company who doesn't follow through to reimburse them. She then told me to call options and provided me with the number and said they could also tell me my other options but I should take the cash out and just buy a washer. I asked how long would it take to be reimbursed. She said she didn't know but I should just do it. Ummm ma'am why would I do that without documentation and most importantly why would I just do that with a company who has given me the runaround, I have had to continually call them and follow-up, and every day it's been something different. Then the number she provided was incorrect! So I guess I will be calling again tomorrow to FOLLOW UP!
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE and WORST WARRANTY COMPANY! The last time I had an issue I stayed with this company because of the young lady who did resolve the issue. However, after this, I encourage everyone to steer clear of AHS and I will not renew my contract after this. My husband consistently asks is it fixed yet?! We have been taking our clothes to the laundromat due to this situation not being resolved wasting more money plus paying for a home warranty that isn't resolving issues!!! HORRIBLE. BUYER BEWARE!!!
Hi, Jerri. I apologize that you have has these issues with getting your clothes washer repaired. I agree, if there are spots, there is an issue. I show that most recently, the parts that are needed are showing that they are on a manufacturer's delay. A message was left for you on 10-05-2018 to offer options towards a replacement.

After paying for your Insurance Services for years on my house, my aging central Air Conditioning unit went out and technician could not repair and recommended a new replacement. Your company refused to pay for a new unit for my home. I had to pay out of pocket for a new unit. What a waste to pay for American Home Shield Insurance year after year. I have had American Home Shield for the last 7 years until today. In the past, all they did is patch the problems with my 22 year old air conditioner. I held out thinking that someday they would actually do the right thing and replace it for me as the only reason why my air conditioner even worked is because a special kickstart system was installed to make it start on its own. Because of their patch work, it cost me many hundreds of dollars in Freon charges to repair my system. Finally, this year I broke down and bought a new AC on my own with none of their so called help at all. I had them come out recently on replacing my 3 non-working ceiling fans. I thought this would be a slam dunk, but no, instead they denied coverage on all of them merely because one or more blades had broken off of my ceiling fans as after all, they were also 22 years old.
I had each of these blades ready to be put back on after fixing my motor. They said they would not cover them at all as there were missing parts that I actually had in my hands ready to fix. They cited as usual the fine print in my contract when the big print says that they cover ceiling fans. To top it all off, when cancelling today, they told me that there would be an early termination fee. I went off as I had been a customer for the last 7 years. They said since I was on auto pay that I automatically agree to them renewing my contract without my permission or signature. This is completely unacceptable as I signed nothing agreeing to a contract renewal in the first place!
Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT sign up with them as I promise that you WILL regret it later. Along the way, before they do you really dirty, they will further nickle and dime you to death stating that your system is out of code or needs to be upgraded. My hot water heater this year was covered by them to replace this year, but guess what, I paid over $650 when a brand new water heater at Lowe's is around $400. Turn around and walk away, this company is horrible and only cares about the money they are bringing in and NOT about doing the innocent consumer any favors!!!

One time, there was no air coming out of our ducting so I called American Home Shield. However, it took a while for them to send somebody out because it was on a weekend. I explained to them that I had a terminal patient here that could not deal with the heat. He was on oxygen and we needed someone right away but it still took them a couple of days to get someone out here. When they got someone out here, they ended up putting in a temporary emergency blower motor which we didn't know at the time.
A week later, no air was coming out again, so we called back. AHS sent someone else completely and they were the ones who told us that it was just a temporary motor and that it wasn't supposed to last a long time. They were very thorough and they did a very great job and we haven't had any issues at all with our air conditioning since. The guy told us when he was working and checking out the system that there was a crack and because they were there for the air conditioning, they couldn't do anything about it yet. Sure enough, the pilot light on the furnace went out, so we got someone who's to fix that.
Another thing is my girlfriend was the one who referred me to AHS and we were supposed to be getting a $25 gift card but neither one ever received it. She called about it and AHS gave her a big old telephone runaround saying that they would just call back in a few days. She was so frustrated that she never called back. Though our relationship started out rocky, having AHS' warranty has been a pretty positive experience.

I just purchased this home that was built in 1994 and there weren’t a lot of things wrong in it. I also had never used American Home Shield until I had a leak under the sink. The guy they sent out looked under my sink and said that I needed a basket. He made a phone call and then he told me that it wasn’t covered, but I figured that I had to do it because of the leak. But I was very upset because it was said to be a secondary effect from the leak and it cost me 225 bucks for a little basket that cost 50 bucks at Home Depot. I’ve been ripped off.
The Advance Plumbing company was outrageous and I was very disappointed with AHS. They should put that secondary condition in their contract and explain what it meant because I didn’t know that it was a secondary thing. I also called them about it and I told them that I wouldn’t be calling them unless it was an emergency. I’m already paying AHS $600 and something a year including my roof and that’s just not fair. I’m not getting ripped off again and I don’t want these people anymore.
Good morning Ms. Rubin,
I understand your concerns and frustration regarding the contract verbiage and your most recent denial. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved regarding the leak.

The most recent experience I've had with American Home Shield has been the dryer and it’s still isn’t fixed. I tried calling back but I didn’t wanna use the automated machine. I don’t like it because I had a bad experience once wherein I had a garage door repair and when the guy came out, it turns out it wasn’t covered. If it wasn’t covered from the beginning, AHS shouldn't have let the contractor come out here but they did and I got charged with a 100 bucks. I wanted to use an actual person but I was on hold for over 15 minutes so I had to hang up. I still haven’t heard back from them.
My wife had to put the clothes on two cycles in order to dry them so I’m using electricity twice as much as I should. It’s annoying that the dryer is not working. They’ve come out three times. The first time, a guy misdiagnosed it. He said it was the vent system in the back so he put a new vent in there and said, “Okay, we’ll give it a shot.” Of course you can’t really try it until you put wet clothes in there to dry. So then they didn’t dry, I called AHS again and they sent a different company out and he said, “Oh yeah, it’s the timer.”
So the contractor ordered the part, he put a new timer in and he left. After that, the dryer still has to go twice of it. I’ve said from the beginning, it’s the heating element or another part because it’s one of those things that you put it on and when it’s all dry it automatically senses it. The sensor must be bad and even on the time side, it’s still not working because I had to put it twice. I put it for 30 minutes or 60 minutes and it still doesn’t dry completely, and I have to put it on again. So it must be the heater that’s bad. Maybe the heater after it gets hot stops working and that’s what’s happening. The other ones fixed some electrical stuff for me but it wasn’t working. American Home Shield works as long as you don’t use the automated system and you just have to be vigilant as far as scheduling appointments to make sure that the item is covered completely.

I had to call American Shield six weeks ago because my air conditioning was not working. The first time I called to submit the claim, everybody was courteous and nice. The second time, I decided to do it online, and it was even quicker. The contractor came out and it took them very little time because the man determined my thermostat was not working so he replaced it. Three and a half weeks after, the same thing happened and the same person came again. He said the thermostat was again damaged so he replaced it and it has been working ever since. The contractors were very good and it was great dealing with them. They were very flexible. I had to travel outside the country on our first claim, so they gave me an appointment exactly the day after we came back which was what I requested. Then right before coming, they called me and let me know they were on the way. It was excellent.
We bought the house not even a year ago and this insurance was paid by the former owners. We're thinking about extending it when it expires at the end of February because we like it. I've used AHS two times for the same thing. It has been a great experience so far and the price is unbelievable. People should give them a try.

I filed two appliances on the same claim with American Home Shield. One was for an ice maker mechanism on a refrigerator and the other, a gas range that had a faulty oven switch that when the oven heated up, it would cause the light to flicker. The contractor misdiagnosed it the first time as the control unit in the back of the range. They changed it out and the condition didn’t change. They also wanted to change a switch, but when they tried to take the range apart, they were twisting the screws off to access the switch. So, they finally said that it’s not repairable and they recommended paying us for a range. The ice maker was repairable though so they got the parts and repaired that.
We got the same repair person for both items. He was knowledgeable, courteous and on time as far as setting the appointments and being there, and he was able to fix the problem within a very reasonable time frame. Everything’s been fine since then. So far, we’ve purchased the range, but we still have not received a remuneration from them. We spoke with them two weeks ago and they indicated there was no problem as far as the receipts that were submitted and that it had been processed and that payment was on its way. Other than, I have no complaints.

I've been with American Home Shield for some years and warranty-wise, I'm pleased with them. I usually call them when I submit claims and the customer service people are very courteous. They seem to be willing to listen extensively so they can get a great understanding of what I'm calling about. Additionally, they will come back and give me an understanding of what they think I'm saying to make sure they have the correct information. That makes me feel as if they're listening and that what I'm saying really matters to them. I also file claims online and it's more efficient than calling, but it depends on where I am in my ability to get to the Internet.
However, when I filed a claim with our air conditioning, I had an issue with scheduling where I had to call the contractor after Home Shield told me that the contractor would get in touch with me. I waited two days but even on the third day, I did not receive a call from the contractor. That was a little disappointing because I lost two days waiting. The person who came out was a very professional gentleman, though. He was also very friendly and thorough, and willing to do whatever he could do to resolve the issue as expediently as he could. I have two homes connected with American Home Shield and I called them in August so they can do work on it. One of my homes is in Ridgecrest and the little pipe under the sink started leaking. I asked American Home Shield to repair the pipe and paid my fees. The guy that came over there made the situation much worse. Instead of repairing the pipe in 15 minutes, he made it four hours and sealed the water. I had people in the house and he told them to not use the water right away and wait for several hours. I didn't understand that because in my other home, I just had the same repair done and it only took the guy 15 minutes, and we were able to use the sink the same day.
The people in the Ridgecrest house called me and said that they were brushing their teeth and using the sink for the first time because the guy took so long that they didn't use the sink anymore that day. The next morning, they turned the water on and water started gushing all under the pipes. It happened on a weekend so they had to wait for a whole weekend in order to get work down for Monday. I called the contractor and spoke to someone in hopes of getting someone else from their company to come and repair it. The supervisor got very nasty and told me that they would see what they could do, instead of saying an apology and then sending someone out. They sent somebody and he ended up stopping the sink up, plus the leak was still there.
After all of that, we called back over and over and over, and it took them about 10 days to get it done. I had to keep calling back and forth on that company, asking them when they were coming out because I have two tenants in this house and they were sharing a bathroom at that point. When they did come, they made a lie and talked about they didn't wanna come anymore. I asked American Home Shield for another company prior to that because they were giving all these excuses. It was a total disaster.
I've also had problems with the contractors taking a long time to come or not showing up in my Compton house. There was one company not even answering their phone, and American Home Shield would call them if they were supposed to come in. They would say that they'd send out somebody, and put you on the list. I gotta pay $75 for them to come out. When they come out, instead of fixing the problem, they wold say that they need to call for authorization. That takes a few more days, but I already paid for the service. I really don't want American Home Shield anymore. I'm not happy with their service at all.
I also asked American Home Shield who takes care of the contractors they sent out if a customer reports a problem with that company. They told me that they report it over to the contractor relations. So I asked them to make sure that contract relations knows about the situations that I'm complaining on. They agreed to do that, but when I called them back to ask if they reported it, they said they don't see anything reported. I would not recommend anybody to American Home Shield.

We had a plumbing leak. It was from where our sink line was, and it was dripping through a vent in the basement. We didn't know what that was - if it was condensation or what, but we thought we needed someone to be out here immediately. At first, American Home Shield put us in touch with Crown Plumbing but they were booked. AHS told us they couldn't get anyone else out until Monday and we said that was not acceptable. We were having dripping water from one floor to another and we couldn’t wait three days to have someone come out. Therefore, even though we have this service, we had to go ahead and get a plumber and just pay the full thing. I was not pleased.
Another time, we had to have someone come out for a dishwasher and a microwave. AHS had this company called Aurora Plumbing come out, and those guys were wretched. They came out three times for the same thing and made it worse than it was initially. So we told AHS that they shouldn't have them on their list at all. The other fellow that they recommended was awesome. His name was Jessie and he was knowledgeable and fixed the appliance in no time. Another issue we had was that sometimes we are on the phone for a very long time and it says that we can set up the claim online. However, when we have a leak, we don't wanna set it up online. We don't wanna wait and hear back in two hours from somebody cause we want it dealt with now. So, as a whole, I’ve been happy with what AHS has done. Still, I would tell everyone that whoever American Home Shield recommends, they should look them up first and see what kind of reviews they’ve gotten.

Having the warranty is very valuable and it's worth the peace of mind to have it. I've only been with American Home Shield since June and I've had three service calls. One of those calls was an easy fix. But with the microwave, a part had gone out and had I not had American Home Shield, I would have had to pay for service call and the parts. It probably would have cost me more money than it did. I was also an American Home Shield member many years ago, back when I was a homeowner in East Virginia. When we moved into the home that we live in now, we were with another warranty company for a year. It was part of the thing that was set up when we bought the home. But I wasn't as pleased with their service as I was with American Home Shield previously. That was why I came back to American Home Shield.
I usually file claims online and it is very quick. The website's great and it's very user-friendly. The claim that I'm having now is for the dishwasher. It wasn't powering on at all. It was working at one point during the day earlier in the week and then, about 45 minutes later, I checked it and it was not running. Ever since then, it hasn't turned back on. I checked the breakers and everything was okay. The contractor was willing to come out the next day but they haven't been out yet because of scheduling on my end. Even the contractors I've had before were usually very quick to respond. I've had good interactions with them and they diagnosed the issue quickly and effectively.

Our sump pump was pumping water under the house like crazy so we thought we had a leak. The plumber that was sent by American Home Shield was very good and knowledgeable. He inspected everything carefully and it turned out it wasn't a leak. We were over-watering the yard and it was draining down into the bottom of the house, and out the sump pump. He told us what to do to correct it. So, I turned the time on the front yard watering down and the problem was solved. I'm pleased with everything, so far.

Recently I filed a claim with AHS for my washer. Once I got online, I opened up my own account, put a claim and everything was handled after that. There was a little problem though. What happened was, the first company that came that checked out the appliance didn’t tell me that they weren’t gonna do it. They ended up sending another company but that was the only problem. I didn’t know what was going on until the next week. The final contractor that came in told me what was going on. Once he got the part, he came in and installed it, and everything is working fine right now. American Home Shield took care of everything good and I would recommend them.

The whole front of the dishwasher was leaking and the soap dispenser was not working. I did the claim on the computer and I was able to get it easily. Then we were contacted by the contractor soon after. He made arrangements, came out and fixed it. He was very professional, nice and courteous too. But we actually have an issue and we're getting ready to call again. The soap dispenser is messing up again. It's no longer leaking on the floor but the soap dispenser is not opening. Still, I’ll recommend American Home Shield. We got very prompt service and everything was as it was agreed upon in our contract. We paid the down payment and when the guy came out, we didn’t have to pay anything extra. It was an absolutely excellent experience all the way around.

American Home Shield sent out a guy to work on the hot water heater leak. We have twin tanks and he said that things were off kilter, which made one of the tanks do most of the work and not the other. He made some adjustments and fixed the issue. However, the issue happened again. We are remodeling our home right now and when I went down to the basement and did an inspection, I noticed the hot water heater leaking. This was also fixed. American Home Shield took care of things promptly.

I called American Home Shield in August because my air conditioner in the attic was leaking and what I said when I called was, "My air conditioning is leaking." However, the person on the other end only heard, "is leaking," and they sent out a plumber. I called back to say that it was my air conditioning and that I didn't need a plumber. They told me to just let the plumber come out and the plumber will then transfer the claim to an air conditioning person. The plumber came out and he was here for 30 seconds. He looked and said that it was my air conditioner and that he had to transfer the claim. AHS transferred it and I called up, and they called me back saying that there would be another couple of days. It took four days for an air conditioning person out to my house. I told them that I would not gonna be charged for a second service call and they said no because it was a transfer. That was where the nightmare began.
They took the initial $75 fee, and then I continued to keep getting bills saying I'm past due for the additional $75, and I was not really happy about that. Their customer service department was worse. I literally was in tears the last time I called because I was getting notices saying, "It's 30 days past due. Credit, this, that…" I thought I had taken care of it earlier, which, apparently wasn't taken care of. It was in the note that said it was a transfer. The rep put me on hold forever, came back and told me that they have to review the call where I was told it was going to be a transfer and I would not have to pay a second fee. That was when I blew up and I almost had a nervous breakdown.
I hung up, called back, and I started pushing until I finally got somebody who was able to help me. The rep gave me the inside scoop of how to get ahold of somebody so I don't have to wait forever. She told me to push the Spanish line because there was never any wait. She was the last person I talked to who was absolutely wonderful. She gave me her name, an activity log number and everything saying she was filling out a form that the fee needed to be removed. I haven't gotten any notices lately, so I'm hoping it was taken care of.
Two years ago, I was without air conditioning and it took five different services. I paid for one on my own and they still couldn't figure it out. I had a ladder going up into my crawlspace from my attic and whenever the air conditioning would shut off, I would hit the air conditioner unit and it would kick back on. I told them that it was a loose connection but nobody believed me. The fifth person finally figured it out and said that I was right.
When it takes four different people to come out and the fifth one finally figures it out, it's not acceptable. I've been without air conditioning for three weeks and I have kids. I had fans going, windows open, it was unbearable. If they couldn't get somebody in their Rolodex, they need to reach to an outside company and get this taken care of. But American Home Shield only charged me one service fee for all those people and I didn't have the service fee issue back then.
One positive for American Home Shield was when my garbage disposal went out and they replaced it really fast and were pleasant about that. However, to get through to anybody is a nightmare and when I get through, it's a third world country call center and they do not understand English. When I asked to speak to somebody that can understand English a little better, they put me on hold for 45 minutes, then they hung up on me. It was not cool at all. I haven't had any problems with the people they have sent, it's just dealing directly with American Home Shield and who they have for customer service is where their issue lies.

It’s pretty easy submitting claims with American Home Shield. I just make a phone call and my husband likes to do it online. We most recently had one for the hot water heater and the guys who came to fix it were really efficient. They called ahead and it was nice to know who was showing up. Also, they were courteous and they worked fast. But we had a second opinion because it was kind of difficult with AHS to figure out. At first, they didn't want to fix the heater and it was clear in our policy that it was covered. There was a confusion on the interpretation and it was the person I got on the phone. They kind of disputed everything and that was a bit frustrating.
We had the second opinion and AHS agreed to fix it. It took four or five days after the first plumbers for the second to come but it was done in one day. And I've had other interactions with their reps on the phone and the person was very nice and helpful. Also, we’ve saved money on things that were broken and things that happened. Being homeowners, it felt nice to have the warranty.

My dishwasher wasn't cleaning the dishes, as well as my dryer hasn’t been drying. I called AHS to submit a claim and it was a seamless process. The reps were courteous. The call was straightforward and I haven’t had any issues at all. I called early the first morning, and the tech called me immediately the very next morning and told me his availability was later that evening. He was responsive. But it didn’t work with my schedule, so he didn’t come until the day after. But still, a two-day turnaround was impressive. He was knowledgeable, prompt and he followed up. He fixed the dryer. He was also able to fix the dishwasher temporarily but now, it's back to the same problem. But I didn't call again. It's time to get a new dishwasher because this has been 14 years old.
Having a home warranty gives me that financial security that if anything ever goes wrong with my appliance, I can try to get it repaired. A lot of my friends are very cautious when it comes to home warranties, especially with the appliances because of past, negative experiences with other companies. But with any opportunity I have, I always raved about American Home Shield because I didn’t have anything but good experience. I haven’t used AHS that often, but when I had to, it has always been a painless process.

My bill was really high. I wanted to get it down and filed a claim with AHS over the phone for my AC. The contractor who came over was great and his knowledge was great. It turned out all I needed to do was change filters. He said not to worry about the allergen filters because it was not letting the air through which was making my air conditioner work harder. By having the flat filters, the air was able to filter through and bring the cost down. For a few dollars, I was able to buy some filters and my bill went down $70 last month. So even though I had to pay the service call, which was quite expensive, it balanced out. It has saved me money so it was a win-win.

I have spent over 2 weeks attempting to get a response about fixing my ice maker in my refrigerator. The technician submitted his diagnosis about how it was unable to be repaired and I called for almost a week with no response from American Home Shield. Finally I'm told they would not cover due to Samsung designing the refrigerator poorly. They want to charge me an additional service fee to have another tech come out all while I'm without even a repair option. The first attempt to have a tech show up on a Saturday they never showed up or called and ruined our whole day. I called another company, gave them the model number and they are having someone come out with the parts in 2 days to fix it. American Home Shield has been one of the worst experiences I've ever had dealing with a company. Thanks for nothing and stealing money.

Extreme issues with communication, looong waits to talk to a customer service rep. It takes multiple calls to resolve one issue. They make the customer a shuttle between repair company and AHS. Just got frustrated and finally decided to leave. Not sure who has given high marks to AHS. Must be internal employees bumping up the rating artificially or paying Consumer Affairs to boost the rating. Impossible to have such high rating unless skewed.

AHS has poor customer service and does not honor their contractual agreements. Simply put, they take the money and do nothing they promise. It is so disappointing to see how poor their commitment to customer service and basic business integrity is. Poor Customer Service --> AHS does not empower their outsourced call center with the information or power to help their customers. They ask questions from a script but cannot answer any questions. After submitting a service request for our dishwasher, the service technician told us that it would require over $500 in parts the equipment to fix the dishwasher and that AHS would get back to use with the plan to fix, but they would most likely have to replace the dishwasher.
After a week of not hearing from anyone, we reached out to AHS. The first day, we were on hold for an hour (after the automated voice said we were the 1st in queue), We finally hung up assuming it was a busy time. We tried again the next day. Again, we were on hold for an hour only to be hung up on. Day three, we called again, but were able to reach someone after being on hold for 20 minutes. After the outsourced call center rep answered, she told us that AHS had already ordered us a dishwasher - without consulting with us. We asked what was ordered, when it would get here and who would be installing. After dodging the question for 5 minutes, she finally asked us to hold and hung up. (Turns out, no dishwasher was ordered. She lied.)
We called again, explained the situation and asked for a supervisor. We were then told that the supervisor did not want to talk to us. Let me say that again. The supervisor refused to get on the phone with us. They do not honor their contractual or verbal commitments --> After finally reaching a supervisor on the phone, he committed to getting back to us by the end of the day with our options for solution. He didn't call us back. Instead he sent us a link with an option to replace the dishwasher with the same defective model that was installed or get a cashout offer.
They refuse to have a conversation with us to discuss the options or address any of our other concerns. In the meantime, our beautiful Brazilian hardwood floors in the kitchen are warped and ruined. We had been loyal customers of American Home Shield for 12 years ago. We are canceling them immediately and I will tell every person I know about their shady and bad business practices. I am embarrassed that I recommended them to so many of my friends over the past 12 years.

In follow-up to a filed claim, we found the website was down all morning and early afternoon. So we made a phone call (actually, a number of calls). We were on hold 10 minutes before (we appreciate that...) we were offered a return call when a rep was available. That call came 20 minutes later; but after a 20-minute hold (!) the call was "answered" but no one was there -- like the person took a bathroom break or something and left the handset on the desk (I could hear people talking in the background). I actually waited 20 more minutes before hanging up and starting all over again. You guessed it: website still doesn't work, now been on hold 30 minutes!
Updated on 10/16/2018: American Home Shield's promise they will get back to me. Well, they never go back to me. Which is my complaint - I can't get through on the computer or the phone, when I did get through the supervisor never called me back like I was told, and their promise to evaluate their local plumbing vendor never happened.
Here's what happened. The claim was filed and they did hook us up with a local plumber. That's when everything stopped. Plumber didn't show as promised, when he did he left and said he'd be back in a few days, he didn't show up that time so we called American Home Shield asking for their help. Can't get through, yadda, yadda, yadda. You know the rest of the story. I see plenty of similar complaints here. I don't know why there are five "perfect" stars -- American Home Shield needs to DO ITS JOB to earn that rating.

I recently had a pool filter issue when it stopped working. They sent a pool man to fix, he said he could not. AHS refused to replace saying due to excessive water pressure, which was erroneous as there was no way that could be established as that was the broken part. I got a call from AHS saying refused and the excuse given. I contacted BBB and miraculously they have added storm damage (another complete fabrication) that has never been mentioned until it was pointed out excessive water pressure could not be proved as cause. I told the man from AHS I would have to get it fixed somehow and would send them the bill. My pool man did fix it and I paid him $200. I have been paying extra to AHS for decades for pool and as this is first claim I have put in. It obviously is usual wear and tear as not been replaced in all that time. AHS refuse to pay the bill.
This is second incident this year. Requested a plumber for broken pipe connection in May, 2 plumbers came neither of which would do anything unless I used their contractors to repair damage. So I have paid out $150 for absolutely nothing. Requesting $200 for repair is not excessive. You need to either get better contractors or customer service.

Currently at another 28 minutes on hold to try to resolve a problem with a service provider that is WAY less than helpful. On 3 separate occasions I have called American Home Shield and each time my “coverage” did not cover the broken appliance or issue. 1st was our HVAC, sent out a tech who lied about the time they would arrive after I left work early and made plans to meet the vendor for service. They showed up moments before I did and then left saying he didn’t have time to wait around, leaving my wife and I without AC for another 2 days. Then second vendor who came out didn’t fix the issue but instead created a new problem and said we would have to call him back out to fix that issue on a later date. All in all terrible experience.
2nd a pipe connected to the house cracked and leaked pretty heavily. Saying that we would have to wait 3 days for service (and without water) I chose to call a plumber on my own and apply for a reimbursement from American Home Shield. Didn’t not reimburse or even notify us of any sort of resolution. Out another 500$. Thanks again AMS.
3rd similar issue as before. A pipe connected to house burst. This time with a lot more water. Having learned my lesson I chose to call AMS and follow the proper procedure. Only to have yet another vendor string us along for 2/3 days saying he couldn’t come out soon enough. (3 days without water again) Upon arriving the vendor stated that because the pipe was outside the walls of the house that AMS would not cover the repair... Knowing that I have had enough of not having water I chose to have the plumber fix the issue. Out yet another $500 to fix something that was supposed to be covered in my American HOME Shield warranty.
This product/coverage is simply put thievery, they charge you and then refuse to cover anything. Simply put don’t waste your money, your time, or anything on this terrible company. If I could go back and tell myself to never trust such a crooked company I would but instead I warn you pleasant few who take time to check reviews. Look else where. And the real reason I want to write such a scathing review is because after battling and trying to wade through all of the issues I’ve experienced, they call me asking me to renew my coverage... After doing nothing for me you want something from me? The nerve. Do not buy.

We have two open service requests. One is minor: a pipe leak. We requested service 9/21/2018. Today is 10/8/2018 and the small pipe leak is still not fixed. Also on 9/21/2018, we requested service on a refrigerator. AHS has sent two different contract companies and three separate service visits and the fridge is still nowhere near fixed. In between each service visit, I called to ask how to simply get a replacement fridge since I only have 1 fridge and have food spoilage, high eating out bills. The call center employees could not fluently speak English and would not transfer me to someone who could nor transfer to a supervisor. I had no choice but to wait for the next service. In the 3 service visits for the fridge, the contractors have replaced 2 parts and have spent 6 hours in my home.
Finally, 2 days ago I speak to a fluent English speaker who can effectively communicate to me. She asked why I did not request a cashout - essentially ask for the cash required to repair and purchase a new appliance with that cashout. I told her I was unaware of this and when I specifically asked for how to get a replacement fridge - that I'm willing to pay extra $$$ if I can just get cost to repair - and NO ONE answered my questions.
Now, it's too late for a cashout because the expensive parts are bought. The final piece wrong with the fridge is a 5-inch leak in the line to the compressor. The technician told me he is unlikely to be able to fix it because it's surrounded by plastic and he needs to weld it in place. However, AHS 3 days later - still HAS NOT reviewed his diagnosis and will likely require him to try - pushing any sort of repair or replacement of the fridge out another 6-7 business days.
All in all, it will have taken them 19 days to fix a sink leak and probably closer to 30-45 days to fix a refrigerator. At that point, it's cheaper for me to replace the fridge myself because of the cost of eating out and trying to keep a cooler with ice. AHS does not care about the customer. They only care about saving money and will not work with you to get your home back in order. They hire about 50/50 English fluent workers and chances are your questions when you call in will NOT be adequately answered. Use an A+ rated warranty company instead of AHS.

HORRIBLE Service in the Hampton Roads Area: AHS chooses the worst contractors to work on homeowners' appliances. My AC unit was leaking. I requested service and a contractor was dispatched the following day to my home. The contractor said that my coils were dirty and he had to clean them. I cleaned them before he arrived so I know that he was not telling me the truth. The AC unit continued to leak after he left, so I contacted the contractor again!!! They returned the next day and attempted to stop the leak by patching it with some type of substance. My 13 year old son could have played arts and crafts with my unit and would have replicated what the contractor did. This is embarrassing and a complete ripoff.
Today is October 7, 2018 and my unit is STILL leaking. Now it has soaked into my carpet!!! I requested service AGAIN and AHS is going to send the same contractor to my home to fix the issues although I know that it is not going to get fixed. I have had numerous issues with this company and after tonight, I am going to cancel my service with them. I am also going to contact a REAL AC contractor to fix my unit. Homeowners do not have money to throw away but AHS seems to think that we do. I had to find a way to email them about this issue and they hardly ever answer their phone. AHS enjoys the money that we provide them but they do not take care of their customers. Save your money and find another home warranty company.

The spin cycle kept banging the tub of the washing machine, so I knew the balancer was off. I submitted a claim with AHS, which I've been doing mostly online, and their website was pretty simple enough to navigate through. As soon as I submitted the request, I got an email back and someone called me shortly. I took off four hours from work that day and I requested the afternoon time for the contractor to show up because they always say between 8 and 12 or 12 to 5 but I needed them to be more specific. So, the person on the other end said they'd get to me at the last hour which was the 12 to 5 that I told them to. But they never showed up.
Then the contractor called and asked to reschedule, but I said that was not possible. Their guy was running late and I was there waiting for him and he didn't want to come. Then guy called and asked me to explain the problem to him. So, I gave him an assessment. He also wanted me to take a picture of my model number then he ordered the part and another guy came to replace the part. So the washing machine got fixed, but I called American Home Shield to file a claim for the return of the $75 service fee. What the contractor did was not the same thing as a service call. I could just call straight to the company and ask them what the problem was in order to fix it myself. But the rep I talked to said that she couldn't do anything about it, so she directed it to someone higher and they said they'd send me a check back.
I also had a problem with my air conditioning unit and this was the fourth time it got fixed. I was away in Vegas for work over the summer and a guy came out with an apprentice. He told my wife that what needed to be fixed and that it was gonna take 10 days to fix it. I told them there was no problem with that but during that time, he tried to say that they could replace the unit cheaper than what AHS could do. So I called AHS up and said that that was not right. Even my wife wouldn’t give an answer. Then, when I came back from my trip, I took off for another couple of hours from my work for that service call and the guy always seemed to show up at the last minute. So, I told him that I gotta get back to work and asked how long it was gonna take. He said it was gonna take two hours and told me to just leave the air conditioning unit on and it'd be okay.
So, I left. But I forgot to close my garage door, so I came around and the guy was already done. So, I asked him to explain to me what he did because he told me he'd be done in two hours. He said the problem was just a burned wire. But he told him that based on his diagnostics check, it was a condenser which was gonna take 10 days to fix. Before that, when I told him to tell AHS to just replace the whole unit, he said that "No, we're an honest company, blah, blah, blah." Then all of a sudden, this turned up and I was so mad. All in all, AHS is great but who they pick for contractors is a different story and I got so many bad experiences with them.

Also, there was black, rubbery stuff coming out of the bathtub right beside the sink. I said to him that I wanted to make sure those issues were not related, but he wouldn’t check in to see if they were related or not. He sealed it up and since then, I had that rubbery stuff that came out again. He was absolutely terrible and rude and that was when I said to Gator that I didn’t want them again.
They sent me a new guy, Jimmy, and he was fabulous. He checked everything and had to keep an eye on the issue. The issue is not quite finished yet, but American Home Shield rectified the situation. I’ve had the issue about a week and a half ago and I took a video if it. I got some of those black stuff that came through the bathtub faucet, although it is not as bad as the first time.
I still haven’t closed out the claim because they will only pay for a standard faucet, and I had to buy two because it’s a double vanity. The standard faucets offset the 500 some dollars I spend on the two and I need to have them look at the back of it to figure out what’s going on and why those rubbery bits are coming out, and that’s when it closes out. I love American Home Shield. I’m a realtor and I totally get my listings and my buyers keep AHS. I refer them all the time. They’ve always been good to me and they’ve been good for my clients in their issues. Everything has been great. I especially recommend AHS on investment property. I always tell my neighbors to get American Home Shield and I tell them the service is excellent and the return on investments is good. Especially if they are a seasonal resident, it gives them peace of mind.

All my family uses American Home Shield so when I bought my first house recently, I turned to them. My most recent claim to them was for my refrigerator that was leaking from the water filter, from the tubing behind it. Everything went really smoothly. The response was quick. The contractor was out there in one or two days. The technician was very courteous and clean. He put on his little shoe slipper and made sure he wasn’t scratching the floor. He also went the extra mile and made sure my ref got fixed the same day. The part that he was going to order was gonna take a long time and we both agreed to just put in a cool, nice, little elbow to fix it. The repair was great. Coming from a repair background in mechanic, the way he thought about it was good. Instead of waiting a week or so for that one piece, what he had on his truck was basically the same thing. It was a great way of going about it, but he made sure I knew exactly what he was doing.

I went to American Home Shield's website and submitted a claim for the duct issues I was having. They came back to me and let me know that they were gonna send somebody out. Wyatt's Air Conditioning came out and they were super good. They were very professional, knew what they were doing and were quick to respond. They did a good job of evaluating the unit and they did it without interfering with my daily routine. They told me that the biggest problem with my air condition was that it's an old system. I've had an air conditioner and electrical business in the past so I knew what they were talking about and they didn't try to snub on me or tell me that I had to do this or that. They did what was necessary. They also did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and I'd recommend them to anybody.

The squirrel cage fan around the blower motor on my AC had some broken blades and I submitted a claim for it online with American Home Shield. That is how I usually submit my claims and the online submission process was easy to go through. But I wished that they would allow me to select certain contractors that I wanted the call to go out to versus some other ones.
I've had issues in the past with a contractor that sent guys out who did not thoroughly inspect to make sure that the one problem they found was the only problem that generated the service request. They just put a Band-Aid solution on the issue, then I had to call them back to come out another two or three times. Initially, that was the contractor that AHS assigned the repair work to, so I called back to get them to switch to another contractor, D&G Service, which is one of three service companies that I prefer to come out. I wanted the repair work done right the first time and I like that D&G is very thorough. D&G came out and replaced the squirrel cage fan and since then the AC has been working wonderfully.

We closed the garage door, it bounced right back up and it kept doing it. You had to hold the button down and sometimes that still wouldn't do it. It got so bad that you had to hold the button down inside the garage and then go out through the front door. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for repair. They are one of the better companies I like dealing with on the phone and I've always had good interaction with their reps.
I got a fairly instantaneous text, since I got off the phone, on who the contractor was. He called me that same day and set up an appointment. It was just a matter of my availability and he was willing to come out that evening. He talked to my wife and he told her what the problem was. He looked at it and fixed it, but then it still had another issue. It wasn't doing it as bad, but it would do it every five times. He came back out, did some other adjustments and I've never had any issues since. Since then, it has worked better than it ever has. A lot of the other home warranties don't provide the coverage that AHS does, not without adding on more money. AHS is the most economical as far as 100% coverage of every appliance and I even have water softener coverage on mine. They have saved me a lot of money too.

The spinning cycle on our washing machine went out of balance and it was fixed. It stopped doing the issue for a while and it came back again. I put four towels in and it went out of balance. Although I like talking to a person, I submitted the claim a second time through the machine on the phone. The contractor that was sent out was excellent, but the damn washing machine is beginning to have a problem again. Overall, American Home Shield has been wonderful and I'd recommend them.

I really like American Home Shield. Their online claims process is very easy. I filed a claim for my air conditioner and they responded through email. The contractors that they sent out were great. He was early, very polite and very informative as far as what the issue was, what they were gonna do. He had the parts on hand and completed the job the same day. He was for there 45 minutes. The air conditioning works great now. American Home Shield is a very good company and it’s worth it. I’ve already recommended them to several people.

When my pool pump wasn't working, I had to go to Home Depot and buy some chlorine shock. I had poor chlorine in the pool. We have a waterworks for flood and we used that to separate the water. I couldn’t use the chlorinator as it wasn’t working. I had to chlorinate via another means and it added some extra work for those four days. I submitted a claim for the pool pump to American Home Shield and the process was fairly easy. Doing it online was easier than by phone. I just had to click the pool pump from a dropdown menu and describe my problem. I was notified two hours after that and they sent a text saying a contractor has been called.
The contractor called me and they were out here the next day which was Thursday. I met them outside and showed them the problem. The guy said he’d call me back to let me know when the part would be in and he did what he said. They ordered the part then he showed up on a Tuesday afternoon. We chatted for a little bit and he replaced the part. Now, the pump is performing well. I’ve always been skeptical with warranties but American Home Shield is changing my perception of it. It’s really impressive for them to get somebody typically within a day or two. The worst I’ve had was two days for the AC, but that was in the middle of the summer which was understandable.

My garage door opener wasn't opening or closing and when you pushed the button, it just hummed. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was very easy. I went online, filled up the information, and within a day, I got a text message from the folks who were gonna come out and repair it. A day later, the tech came out and after telling him that the garage door opener wouldn't budge, he went up and worked with it.
There was some kind of bolt stuck that he was able to get free then he fixed it so it wouldn't get stuck again. He knew his way around garage door openers and was able to take care of it in a minimum amount of time. Since the repair, the garage door opener has been working really well. Having a warranty on my property saves me several hundred dollars a year. But over time, it would probably save me a couple of thousand dollars when large things break. Also, I tell my neighbors that I use AHS for quite some time now and I like the service.

I've had long waiting periods with American Home Shield, being put on hold for 40 minutes and then getting through to somebody. One time there was an overcharge on one of the claims, and I had the representative say, "We'll delete that and give you a credit" three times, and then I'd have to explain it to somebody new all over again. It's the same way with my name. My name has been misspelled from the beginning, and everybody said they would fix it but it's still misspelled.
My most recent claim was for the microwave and the oven problem. I submitted it over the phone and that particular one wasn't hard because I was already on the line for an oven follow-up. I explained to the rep about our microwave problems, and she just added that to it. It took somebody from Sears two weeks to come out, and when they did, I had explained to the lady rep that this wasn't an over-the-stove microwave but an above-the-counter in a cabinet space. She said, "As long as it's not on the counter, it's covered." Then when the tech came out, he said, "It is above the counter, but it's still a counter microwave. We can't cover it." It was too bad that he came out and it wasn't covered when I had explained the difference already. He didn't service it 'cause to do so, he said I would have to pay out of pocket, and it was cheaper just to buy one.
When we first moved in to our house, we did not have a refrigerator that worked. The techs tried to put in three different parts, but it seemed like it would take a three-week turnaround before another part would come in. They'd come out and try to install it, and that wouldn't work. After two and a half months, they finally replaced the refrigerator. So, we went two and a half months without the refrigerator working. Overall though, given the circumstances that we had just moved and they quickly worked with us for all the repairs we called in, they handled things to the best of their ability. We have friends who had broken refrigerators with companies that were under warranty and waited eight months to have their refrigerator replaced. So, waiting two and a half months sounds a lot better than eight months.
The only thing I didn't quite understand was when we had air conditioning problems, AHS was sending a company that was about two hours away from us. When that company couldn't service a wall unit that we had, AHS sent another company that was within 15 minutes of us. That company was more professional than the first one. We had to wait a week for the company that was two hours away to have other customers in our area to come out our way. Otherwise, all the servicemen that have come out have been professional.

A drain clogged and I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield. But I didn't hear anything from the original company that they assigned the claim to, so I called in. AHS then reassigned the claim to The Lindsay Company who were able to do the fix on the same day. I paid for the service call at the time that I made the service request but AHS assigned those funds to the company that never showed up. So, I’ve been getting a past due notice ever since on the $125. I've called about four times for that and I don't love that I'm getting a call center that's in another country. There's always a language barrier related to that. I had a more recent claim with my air conditioner that I couldn't do online because even though everybody tells me this $125 past due is taken care of, it still blocks my account from any online request.

The faucet in the bathroom was leaking and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. They sent someone out and the person who came ordered one hot water cartridge and another one for the cold water. He stated that once the cartridges get replaced, that should solve the problem. The cartridges were ordered a couple of weeks later. They sent another service technician out and once the cartridges were installed, the technician checked and saw that there were no more leaks. He told me to contact AHS if I had any problems and they would send another technician out if the problem persists. Two hours after he left, I still had dripping water.
I notified American Home Shield and they sent another technician out. When the technician got here, he ran some tests and he said that the problem wasn’t from the cartridges themselves but from the faucet. Every time I cut the faucet on and off, it stores water inside the valve or the faucet so I end up having a drip from that. It was irreparable and it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. Even if they did cover it, we would have to get our top of the line faucets replaced and if AHS would replace them, it would be with low grade ones so that was something I would probably wanna look into doing ourselves. At that point, he stated that there wasn’t a charge for coming because the problem wasn’t resolved the first time.
Three days later, I got a phone call from AHS saying they got the report from the service technician and he said that he didn’t have to repair anything. So, they were gonna have to charge me for that visit. I told them that was totally unfair. The second technician they had come out didn’t have to repair anything so they passed the cost to me. I wouldn’t have a problem with paying the cost if the first technician changed the cartridges out, explained where the drip was coming from and told me that there was nothing they could do about it. If I would have called for another technician to come out, then I would have accepted the deal. They sent a technician out and he had me under the impression that the problem was resolved but it was not. That was the request for the second technician to come out.
The AHS agent I was talking to also stated that the technician who came out the second time, did the test and found that the problem was the valves in the faucet was the same technician that came out and noted something on the account. I told him that was false and it wasn’t even the same technician who came out. The one who installed the cartridges was one person and the one who came out the second time was a totally different person. I said that I didn’t understand what they were trying to pull because it was totally unacceptable and I would not be paying $75 since it was unfair.
I shouldn’t have to pay another service fee if they sent professional people out to my house. I followed protocol and I was being punished. The interaction when I sent the claim was good but the service was not finished and I was not provided great customer service from American Home Shield regarding this whole situation. I’m going to cancel my membership and I would not refer anyone to them.

American Home Shield is a very good service. They give us peace of mind knowing that there’s somebody out there that’s gonna take care of home issues. It’s nice to hand those off to someone else for them to make the calls and arrange the appointments. We just purchased our home and the appliances are failing one at a time. We had water that comes out of the refrigerator door and it froze inside the door, so they had that fixed. We also had the pump go out of our washing machine and they had someone come out for that. Then we had the dishwasher quit working and they again sent someone out for that. So, we’ve had several calls recently. Hopefully, they come in threes and that’s the last thing.
Our experience in submitting claims is great. When we called, they promptly sent somebody out. There were no troubles, hiccups or problems at all. Everything went smoothly. We also had wonderful interactions with the contractors. When the dishwasher went out, the first guy who came basically unplugged it and plugged it back in and said that the little computer module needed to reboot. But that did not fix it. So the next day we were to use it, it did not work again and was doing the same thing. Another gentleman came out and he went through the whole process. He was very thorough with it. He was here for a good hour or better and he figured out what was wrong with the dishwasher. Then it has been working fine ever since. Overall, everything worked out well.

But the refrigerator was so old that the contractor couldn’t get the parts for it, so they replaced it with new one which obviously works great. Having a warranty on my property is valuable. However, the company they sent out to fix my geothermal unit had to come back within 30 days because the heat was rising in the home and the air couldn’t keep up with it, which was impossible. The contractor didn’t correct the problem and just temporarily doctored it because they couldn’t figure out the problem. The first guy never even took the time to look at the unit. They then detected that the Schrader valve was dead. Had the guy looked the first time, he would have realized that. Nonetheless, the contractor came back and corrected the mistake. The tech was there on time, and he did what he had to do. There was no mess, too.
However, on our microwave claim, American Home Shield sent out RAS, which I was not happy with. The unit could not be fixed so we had a new one and RAS was supposed to bring and install it. They called and gave me a window from 2:00 to 7:00. At 7:30, they were not here, so I called and they said, “Oh, well, they never put it on the truck because it was damaged.” I then asked, when it comes in, if we can be put at the top of the list since I’ve already done all the waiting. They told me, “No. That is something about their scheduling.”
She said that she would call on a certain day, but she did not call to let me know whether we could be early. Then, they put us late again, same hour, 3:00 to 7:00. At 7:10, I called, and these guys were supposed to be off at 7:00, and told them, “You have to deliver this.” They were off the clock. There were supposed to be finished. The guys were good. It was just that whoever did that scheduling was poor. I even told the Better Business Bureau that I don’t ever want RAS to do anything for me. Other than that, I have no trouble with it. All the representatives at American Home Shield are very nice and very helpful but it takes at least an hour to get a hold of them. Both my ACs, the main one and the one in the bedroom, broke so I had a claim for both of them. And this last time I tried to get ahold of AHS, it was like 35 minutes. They have the option to call me back and when they do, I call back, press one, and then I'm on hold for another 20 minutes. I used to have a company called Total Protect which was in mom and pop’s smaller place but the service is a little bit easier to deal with.
Then, the company that AHS used for the AC took two to three days to come to the house from when I placed the call. And they had to order a part and AHS didn’t help in any way. I told AHS my husband can send a driver and I can go pick up the part to speed up the process. They told me that I wasn’t a priority because I have two ACs. I had an argument and I had them transfer me to the lady that does the ordering of the appointments and she told me that was how it is and they have their procedure. We had to wait a week for the part and it was horrible in our home. The bedroom one doesn’t cool the house and I have a two story house which heat rises and the house kinda heats more. We called and requested them again, but it's been 10 days and I haven't heard back from them. I then called American Home Shield and we got somebody else to come in and do the work, and we’re waiting for a part.
The only complaint that I have against American Home Shield is that I ended up spending out of my pocket for an issue with my pool heater a few months back even though I’m paying for services. We had three people come out and they gave me a ridiculous excuse of what was going on with the pool heater. They said a rodent urinated on the motherboard, which is an impossible thing because there’s no way for a rodent to go inside that place. Only a cockroach can get in there and urinate on it. Also, I don’t know how they can tell a rat’s urine from anybody else’s. The part is built for outside as well, so if it's under the rain, nothing would go wrong with it.
I called the department in American Home Shield that goes back and looks at the claim and they said that they couldn't do anything because it was a rodent issue. I told them that they were not sending people who knew what they were doing. I asked them to bring those guys back and show me where it is, and nobody bothered to do that. And until this day, nobody could prove to me how a rat urinated on the motherboard. I called a company directly and in less than a minute, they told me exactly what was wrong with the motherboard. They said it wasn't urine. I ended up purchasing it and fixing it on my own.

He got in and went right to work to fix the problems and everything has been operating great since the repair.
I've learned from experience to put claims together if you have more than one claim that fall under the same category. So, if you have an electrical issue, you might as well wait for another electrical issue before filing a claim because you would only be paying one deductible then, whereas if you do it twice then you'd be paying the deductible twice. The rates of AHS are affordable and I’d recommend them to people.

For starters, you will be on hold for very long periods while requesting services, they have HORRIBLE vendors, very limited options and every service will take a minimum of 3 weeks to get checked - if so! I had signed up early August 2018 and just tried to cancel membership now, early October 2018. I needed to get a leak checked on my oil furnace, which requested a couple of days after signing up and, TO THIS DATE I haven't had any "technician" come up. Instead, I had the assigned vendor claim he had come and diagnosed the problem when they had NEVER SHOWED UP. The $100 Dollar service fee was charged on my credit card without even getting the service requested.
Even after calling American Home Shield SEVERAL times (at least once per week) to check on the status of the appointment (and being on average on the phone for 1h30 EACH time), I was promised vendor would call when they never did. When I called vendor, they insisted they knew nothing about my claim through AHS. Tried to get a refund on that service fee that never happened and, after being 2h on the phone - which most of it was on hold - and they did not revert the charge, I decided to cancel the membership. Also, I was promised to receive a confirmation of membership cancellation which I did not.
The big issue here is that EVERYTHING is done through the telephone. You cannot do anything except request service (and have to pay right away) through their website. You cannot contact them through email to keep a paper trace of communication over issues with customer service and have to repeat yourself a million times over to the next representative. And having no way to have some sort of written proof or communication becomes a problem. Maybe they do it on purpose so it is harder to have proof of what they promise and never deliver. Also, a detail copy of contract of what's covered and what's not is not automatically provided unless you argue over something they say it's covered when you sign up and actually don't cover after you have an issue. IT'S A SCAM!!! DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY!!!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My biggest complaint with AHS is that they send out horrible vendors and the customer service aspect leaves a ton to be desired. There's no option to contact online and can only be done over the phone. It takes forever to actually reach someone and although they are nice, they obviously don't enjoy their jobs and it seems to lead to a lack of concern in regards to the person on the other end. Having other home warranty providers in the past, AHS is the worst I've ever experienced. As the title says I am not one who likes writing bad reviews but my experience with AHS was so bad that it warranted one. If you are interested my completely honest non-exaggerated experience is below.
I paid for their service for well over a year without making a service call and received a rate hike after the year was up which I wasn't made aware would happen. So what? Lots of companies do that. Last week however on a Sunday my A/C seemed to be struggling running constantly to keep temperature at 80 degrees. I decided to put in a request online which was very easy to do. I got a call Monday from the company they contracted to tell me that they would be unable to do the repair as they didn't have an extended height ladder to get to my roof. Ok, fair enough. Odd to hire someone not capable of the job but whatever. I went ahead and called AHS and was on hold for 30-40 minutes until someone answered. The woman was nice but didn't seem to be able to keep up with me.
After an additional 30 minutes she confirmed that she set up a new company and told them about my roof access needs. I called the new company immediately to schedule which we did for the following day. Funny thing is they said they were unaware that there were access concerns. They cancelled due to inclement weather and said they'd come out the next day. They did just to tell me that they won't be able to access the roof either. They said they would send someone out the following day with the right equipment. They never did and after that I called AHS again hoping they would move the needle on this issue as I had been without working A/C for nearly a week.
The woman on the phone this time was much more helpful but I still had to wait 30+ minutes to talk to her. She scheduled ANOTHER company and gave me their info. I looked them up online and literally every review talked about how they stole parts and drove up repair costs through AHS EXCLUSIVELY! American Home Shield warranty came with the purchase of our new home in April 2018. Shortly after we had moved in, I noticed a spot in the dining room ceiling that looked damp. It happened to be under the master shower. Being an experienced homeowner, I was about to do it myself, however, I figured I would check out my home warranty. I was covered with only a $75 service fee.
American Home Shield dispatched Stilwell Plumbing to fix the leak. After four visits from four different Stilwell plumbers, the shower drain still leaks. The day after the last plumber was here, it leaked the next morning. I have been working crazy hours out of town, and was unable to call AHS. Now that I have finally called, I am stuck with another $75 service fee because I waited more than sixty days to call. When I asked how they could close out the prior claim with the hole still in my ceiling, the AHS associate said that some other contractor was supposed to have fixed it. Well, I said that never happened.
We live out in the middle of nowhere, I figured that the first $75 fee would have been cheaper than a couple of runs to the Home Depot, now I'm gonna be in it for $150. I probably will not renew my home warranty with AHS. I may look at another warranty provider next April. I will say, the AHS associates seem friendly, however, it is hard to contact them online except to file a claim. I wanted to send them an email. This review is the only way I have found to send a message. Good luck to those who have a home, and a warranty, I hope you do not need to use the warranty, but if you do, be prepared to make several, long phone calls.

We had a washing machine that stopped working. AHS sent two different companies. The first one who came diagnosed it as having a maintenance issue and that we were supposed to have been the ones that would remove the cone and the post that it was attached to, and remove the drum. Once he left, we called AHS back and said that didn’t sound like that was something that should be typical maintenance for people. The individual with Home Shield thankfully agreed, and they sent out someone else.
That individual did take a look at it and said there was no way that this would be considered a typical maintenance issue by an owner. He contacted American Home Shield and gave them the estimate for repairing that. AHS had decided that they were gonna leave it with us as to whether we wanted to go ahead and go with option A, which would be to go ahead and repair it, or option B, which was the one that actually was the least expensive all in all, which was to take cash towards another machine. We went with that option B. We sent a copy of the invoice from the local appliance dealer to American Home Shield, so that kind of sped things up a bit, which was great. It was still about three weeks before we got the check, but that didn’t delay us as far as going out and purchasing a new machine.
Also there was quite a bit of time left on hold to be able to not only get to the individuals that we needed, but then also, once we would get the right individual, then they would need to put us on hold, as they were consulting with others in a same or different department. But ultimately, it was very satisfactory because it worked out in our favor. We’ve got friends that we’ve recommended AHS to, and friends that we didn’t even know that they even had a home warranty. We both sing praises and are happy that we got the same coverage.

Our air conditioner wasn't working right. The exterior of the air conditioner was incredibly hot and it wouldn't cool. I went online to file a claim and the next day, somebody did text the name of the company that was supposed to call and gave their phone number as well in case they don't call. I called and talked to them as to when they were gonna come out. They said they would come out quickly. They gave us a time and they came within that time. The technician was very nice.
When the technician got out there, looked at the AC both inside and out, and he came back and talked to us about it. He said the fan motor and some other thing were out. The unit was really old. When my husband bought the house in 1997, it had been flipped and they had put a new air conditioner on it. It was 21 years ago so it's an old product. It's a Corsaire and it turns out that that's a lower level brand of Rheem but it was not a completely undesirable product. It was just not a top-of-the-line. The technician said that he would find the parts and he'd contact me as quickly as he could and he did. They came out the next day and said that they were still looking. And then the next day, they came out and fixed the AC. So, it took three days to fix it. It was horrible though because it was so hot and I was dying. So, I went to Home Depot and bought a window air conditioner.
The contractors were really nice and they were in contact with us. The repairman explained the status of the AC and said he's gonna do his best, and they were able to find the parts. I knew they had put forth some serious effort and they fixed it as quickly as they could. I had a plumbing claim last year and the plumber that they sent out were a blood-sucking nightmare, a pig-dog from hell. That plumber that they sent last year, Mr. Rooter, was absolutely terrible. I thought they would send us some other dregs but they didn't. The contractors they recently sent out were absolutely great. So, I would use American Home Shield again.

I had a leaky water heater and I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. I put down just plumbing as the issue and in the comment section, I had to put in water heater specifically. There should be more options there. I got bounced around between two different contractors and it all happened within the first eight hours of submitting the claim. Then, the contractor gave me a call first thing in the morning at a reasonable time and they came out for an appraisal that afternoon. They told me what it would take and I had to give AHS that information. AHS assessed it and they said that they would replace the water heater. Getting the water heater took some time but that was fine. It was a five-day turnaround but that also had a weekend in it. I am extremely satisfied with the service that I got. If you don’t have a home warranty, get American Home Shield.

I had claims for a beverage refrigerator and a large refrigerator to American Home Shield. One has been out and since somebody was coming, I had him look at both the refrigerators. Working with the technician went well. He was professional and timely. He fixed the big one and then, I got a replacement value on the small one. I purchased a new beverage refrigerator and then they sent me a check for that. As for the big refrigerator that was repaired, it has been working fine since. But then, even though it's a good value to have American Home Shield, the whole wait when trying to talk to somebody is very, very long. When I had the replacement and needed some advice and follow up, my experience hasn't been very good. Also, they couldn’t find out if they have received the fax and I had to wait forever on hold. So while the service is good, the customer service is poor.

A few years back, I had a kitchen built in this house and the range hood is one of those types that comes up out of the countertop, behind the range, on a press of a button. It worked and then it quit working. So, AHS sent out the Amtec guys and I was not sure that they were really prepared for in dealing with the problem. They made four or five trips, over a period of about six weeks, trying to fix it. They finally fixed it but my tenant told me that they seemed like they were experimenting. So, I didn't want to have them out there again.
I had another claim recently in that same kitchen and AHS scheduled Amtec again. I tried to reach AHS to tell them that I don't like that vendor. But when you submit a claim, you just get whoever's next in line. You never know what you're gonna get. You may get a great technician. You may get somebody not so great. Nonetheless, work generally gets done.
Furthermore, it was virtually impossible to get anybody at AHS. A few years ago, we used to be able to call in and get a nice person to talk to. But suddenly, we could not get anybody ever. So, I don't even bother anymore. I have two homes protected by American Home Shield and I always go online. It's just impossible to get a hold of them and even if you get a hold of them, your wait is an hour and 20 minutes. That was the worst part of American Home Shield.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield for a preventative maintenance on the furnace. Somebody called me back within a few hours and we scheduled the appointment a few days later. They set a time window which was met by the tech who came. He spoke very well and explained everything he was doing. He was quite cordial and I was comfortable with him. He checked out the system and did everything he said he would do. I used to replace both the air and humidifier filter myself but he did them as part of the service and I figured, that's worth what I'm paying for. I was satisfied and I felt that the $75 fee was fair because that's what everybody else charges.
Getting AHS is a very good idea. I've also talked to other neighbors who have had AHS before me and it's one of the reasons I went to it. I've also recommended AHS to at least two people and they all took it within a month. I wasn't in a position to recommend it officially but in terms of knowing I was satisfied, I thought the financial of it worked. There was also somebody who had used AHS three years ago and they had very negative experiences. But I said I was willing to write that off as long as I don't have any negative experience.

On the day that I was supposed to be moving in the house, the plumbing where the washer and dryer were taken out was leaking. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and it was great talking to their rep. I wanted the contractor to come out that day to stop the leak but it was impossible. He wasn’t able to come out until that Tuesday at 2:00. By that time, the washer and dryer had come in and have been plugged in.
The contractor came on time but he didn’t do anything because the washer and dryer were in and the leak was gone. It looked like where the water comes in from the faucet was just leaking, so a plastic bottle was put in there to direct the water down the drain. I informed American Home Shield about that and they said they were gonna call the contractor and talk to them. So far, it's always been a good experience with American Home Shield. The warranty is great to have because you never know if something’s gonna happen.

However, it was another story for my ice machine and plumbing issues though as it took a long time for the contractors to come out. I was not happy with them as they were flaky and I had to put somebody on my "do not call” list. I've been with AHS for 15-plus years but they need to get people out quickly and then get their customer's issues fixed. I'm now considering switching to another company.

My pool heater was not functioning and I thought it was the same problem that I had two years ago where there were broken parts and broken circuit boards. I submitted a claim online and got an instant email saying that the claim has been assigned to a certain vendor. The vendor responded within 12 hours or less and the technician came within 24 hours to look at the problem. I’m very pleased with what the vendor has done and with the responsiveness they have. I live in Houston, and it seems like it takes days, weeks or months to get any contractor to come back and talk with us. Still, with the pool heater, the vendor responded very quickly and I was happy.
The technician was good. He found out that the pool people had not put something back in the proper mode so the heater wouldn’t turn on, and I didn’t realize that. Nevertheless, the heater is working fine now. It was a very quick fix and if I’d have been smarter, I wouldn’t even have had to contact them. The two things that I’ve turned in with AHS have been what I thought was gonna be major, but turned to be utterly minor. So far, AHS has responded quickly and dealt with those problems. I’m pleased with that. AHS has been worth the money. I also have a bit peace of mind that if something does blow-up, it’ll be dealt with.

We had a claim for the sump pump in our house in Illinois. I submitted it online and it was easy with American Home Shield's website. Then, the contractor contacted us on the same day the claim was submitted and we arranged for the tech to come out the next day. He was very professional and didn’t waste any time. There had been a lot of rain and so we picked up the groundwater until one pump had quit working. He replaced the pump and it was fine. Our experience with AHS has been pretty good over the years. They're a good reputable company compared to the other home warranty companies. When we bought a house, we were given a home warranty policy with the home and we immediately switched it over to AHS because the first claim with the other company was very difficult to take care of and the contractor didn’t want to. He said that he never gets to reimburse from that other company.

We're selling a house and I had four claims with American Home Shield. The most recent one I filed was for a plumbing issue where we had leaks and very minor repairs were needed. The submission experience could be better. I did it over the phone and there was a language barrier. It was difficult to get one of their operators to understand what the problem was so that they had an understanding of what they were dispatching. But, I was able to work through that. Potts Plumbing and Appliance was then sent to us. They claimed to have broken down on the way but I doubted that. They were the shakiest contractors that I've had out to the house. But once they arrived here, they were good. They fixed everything.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for the refrigerator recently. The request for repair was made online, but all the follow-ups have been on the phone. My problem is that the refrigerator people wouldn’t fix the product. They refused to fix the refrigerator because they said that, technically, all they have to do is make sure that the ice maker and the water dispenser are working, and they are, but there’s a bigger problem than that. I had the repairman taste the water in the ice and he said that in all the years of fixing things, he has never tasted anything like it. He said that there’s something very wrong with the water and it is not drinkable or usable. But AHS just said that the refrigerator is functioning.
AHS wanted the contractor to just change the filter, but that wasn’t gonna fix the problem because we had already done that. I can’t blame the contractor because they weren’t able to do what needed to be done, but I can’t say that they did a good job because they didn't do it since AHS wouldn’t let them. By the way, the refrigerator is eight months old, so the problem is not due to wear and tear. They just failed to fix it.
Hello, Joyce. I regret to hear that you are having an issue with the way your water and ice tastes from your dispenser. A Social Media team member will contact you to further discuss your concerns.

I was very happy with the service when we had a failure of the garage door. The guy sent by American Home Shield had to come out twice. One time, he came out and he could not replicate the problem that we described for him, so he just cleaned and checked. A month later, the thing failed again so we called them. That time, he didn’t replace the whole unit. He replaced one component of it that was the problem, and we have not had the problem since.
On the other hand, American Home Shield has the absolute worst customer service phone line that I have ever seen. They can make an appointment quickly or they can find somebody to repair. However, we bought a house that had this home warranty on it, so I’m completely new to it and I have questions about the coverage. Every time I call in and ask a question, I get the same routine about, “We’re experiencing unusually heavy call volume.” That’s nonsense because if a company had an unusually heavy call volume every time somebody calls, they’d add more staff to deal with it. I usually wait 15 or 20 minutes and I never get a response. They don’t tell you how long you will have to wait in queue before your name comes up, so I just give up on it.
This plan that was in for us when we bought the house expires in the next couple of months. I would like to renew it, but I’m not sure if I know how to. I hope that AHS doesn’t cancel this without giving me an opportunity to continue it. I also hope that they deal with things like that faster than they do with a question about coverage. I know there’s coverage for our furnace and the air conditioner, but one question I would have is if they cover the humidifiers on them. Another question I have is that this time of the year, I think about if I should get my furnace checked to make sure it’s in working order for the winter. I don't know if I should report that as a service call and if I have to pay the $75 fee if they come out, check it and find out there’s no problem.

He also scolded me nicely on a few things like how I needed to clean out the vent lint and what I could do to make the dryer more efficient. He did a great job and since he left, the dryer has worked beautifully. One time, I put clothes in the dryer and in less than two or three minutes, my daughter asked if I could start a load for her. When I called back on Monday, I asked where the techs were and the rep said that they would be here the next day. Then the tech came and fixed the problem.
It was not just this contractor that had this issue. There seems to be a lot of this issue with plumbing and cable companies. There were times when the contractors made an appointment and told me that the techs were gonna be here between certain hours. Then when those hours came and went, they didn't call me. They seemed to feel like their time is the only one that's valuable.
I like AHS but they've gotten to be more expensive. I looked into Choice and they're cheaper. Steven thought it was a condenser motor and it wasn't enough. He came out on that Tuesday the next day and it was the capacitor. They put it in, then it worked and we've been fine since. He was a very nice and fantastic guy.
AHS also has Anthem and unfortunately, the low of the low sometimes gets picked for vendors with these home warranties and that's not just AHS. It's with Fidelity, First American or anybody, and Anthem Air Conditioning was the low of the lows. I had a horrible experience with them and I'd never use them again. The lady in the corporate office and I had a long discussion about them, and I have her name and number in case I have problems no one can help me with. However, this time my experience was very good with Steven.

American Home Shield has been very good. The first claim we had was for the agitator in the washer that broke. We called them about that and the tech came out within a couple of days. He got it working on a temporary basis and he came back a few days after and made the permanent fix. We also had a claim for a little dial to set the jacuzzi hot, cold, or in between. The tech came out and went back to the shop and got the dial. He put it in and he was out of here in an hour. For the last claim, one of the circuits in our pool slipped. They gotta turn, so I looked all over but couldn’t get the thing working. The techs were gonna come out last week, but our pool guy came by and fixed it. So, we got it done and I called AHS to cancel the claim.
AHS is a nice insurance policy to have and the contractors they sent out have all been very good. They have been friendly and courteous, and they know what they are talking about. We’ve been very satisfied with AHS. We are in the process of selling this house, but once we move on to the next house, there is a 99.9% chance that we will come back to them.

The oven wouldn't work and the panel kept getting an error message. I went online to submit a claim with AHS and their website was pretty straightforward, but if there are any questions or if you have more than one issue, you can't do it online. You gotta call the number. American Home Shield designated somebody in their system and they called me and set up the time to come look at the oven. Then they evaluated the situation and told me what they found. They tried to find a part but they couldn't, so I got a call from the appliance replacement division and they gave me some choices.
I took the recommended choice, they delivered the new oven, then they took the plate off to connect it then installed it. And for some reason, they couldn't do it. They said that it was an element connection from the house to the appliance and they could only do copper. The people that AHS sent out to install the oven should be qualified to install it, regardless, and I'm dissatisfied with that part a lot. So, I have a double oven in a box sitting in my dining room. And after I turned the power off and back on, my old oven has been working sporadically. And I was told by the appliance replacement division that I have to get an electrician to come out and change the connection, then American Home Shield will send somebody to install the oven.
Overall, AHS did their part but they sent somebody out who was incompetent with working with the electricity. In the meantime, my dishwasher has been leaking. So the oven is on the back-burner because I filed a claim with my homeowners insurance and they're coming in and they gotta replace the cabinets and a whole bunch of stuff. So the installation of the new oven is gonna have to wait because the leak that I have in my kitchen takes priority.
Good afternoon Mr. Traynor,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experienced to have the oven replaced and installed. I would be glad to speak with you and contact a contractor that is able to complete the repairs.

The heating element of the dryer went out. When we submitted the claim, a guy came out really quick but he had to order a part. He said he'd be back when the part gets here. The part was shipped to our house, which we felt was strange. The first one was bent so we had to wait for another one. We called the contractor and said that the part's here, 'cause we didn't know if they had any way of tracking it. They said that they called in to our switchboard and that they would be here on a Friday but we haven't received any notice that anybody was coming.
The American Home Shield operator said that we have to call the repair place to find out when they're coming. After we'd already been scheduled, we'd never got a confirmation that the contractor was going to be there. And so, AHS had to set us up for three days later. At that time, we've been going to the Laundromat for three weeks. AHS had us call Sears and Sears didn't open that late. We'd call them and say that here's what we have. They said they didn't have anything down. It was just confusing and there was no communication. They sent the first guy which was a bigger one and the dryer is in a tough place, so they didn't send him back. They sent a skinnier guy and he did a great job.
Sometimes, the contractors are idiots, but American Home Shield is usually really good. They're the only one that covers air-conditioning and the dryers. If I had to go out and buy that part then pay the regular service fee, it would've been several hundred dollars instead of $100. It saves money and the older the house gets, the more money it saves one.

They repaired the first problem and then something else happened to it within the warranty period of the first visit. The gentleman came four times and I only had to pay one service fee. They took care of everything that was wrong. I’ve been with AHS for 10 years and they are the only company that I will deal with. I had around three different service companies look at the air-conditioner trying to diagnose what the problem was. One tech showed up and said that he couldn't work on the unit because it was a Goodman and that his company doesn't work on Goodman. The next tech showed up and said that it was something electrical and he tightened the wire knots. However, that was not gonna fix our issue and we were not losing power nor gaining power. They came back, but they didn't do anything. I called American Home Shield just to get a status on what was going on with the repair, but I stayed on the phone with them for about five hours, between wait time and actual conversations. I was told I would get callbacks, but I never heard back. I was also told that a diagnosis was submitted, but then I was told it wasn't submitted.
We went back and looked at all of how it was and I was done with AHS. The warranty expires in December and I'm not gonna re-up it. They are not professional. I also don't have time to battle with the contractor. If someone can't diagnose something, they have to get someone else out that can. If I don't call and ask, it just goes into the vacuum of nothing. It was getting three or four days and I didn't hear anything. Nobody was coming back and nobody was fixing. I still got the same problem and it dragged up for three weeks. I was wondering what I am paying for and why do I have to be the one that calls and says if they have submitted a diagnosis yet. They said they cannot get someone else out here, but they can charge me another $75 service fee and get somebody already.
I asked what the timeframe was on that and I was told 24 hours. However, the 24 hours turned to diagnosis. The next technician said he didn't know why someone told me 24 hours. He said it was 48 hours. It has been three weeks and the frustration continuously amounted. Metro Air Services showed up yesterday and the tech punch screwed a cap on the high-pressure side. It seemed there was a leak in the internal core valve and he replaced the core valve and added a bit of Freon. That was his take on it and the AC seems to be working now. The very last people I dealt with at AHS were wonderful, but the 15 previous people that I dealt with weren't very helpful. I dealt with good people in the process who followed up with what they said they were gonna follow up with, but to get to that was eight phone calls.

American Home Shield replaced my two ovens. I've had endless problems with the lock and when I did a self-clean cycle, it broke afterwards and I couldn't use the oven again. They sent different companies for both ovens at different times to repair it and then the next time, when I would self-clean, it would be the same problems. So, eventually, I said I wanted a GE representative to come. So, he came one time and fixed one oven. When the problem happened again, he fixed the other oven. The GE technician was excellent and I hope that problem is all taken care of.
I usually submit the claims online because to try and get somebody to answer the phone at American Home Shield is impossible. You can sit for 45 minutes which is why I've had a problem with my bill. I have been out of the country and I haven't had a chance to wait 45 minutes for somebody to answer their call. I've been debating having the warranty because I've had to dish out $75 every time for the oven and it doesn't pay to have my warranty. They came out the next morning and they called that they had someone out here. So, we were very pleased with that.
The contractor was very efficient, professional, and quick. He didn’t talk very much, but on the way out, he said the issue was fixed and left the information on our counter in the kitchen. I asked him what the problem was and it was an oven igniter that was defective which he replaced. My wife is very happy that the oven works. My clothes dryer wasn’t heating so I submitted a claim to AHS. We looked on top of the dyer and we turned it on, and all of a sudden, it was like a snowstorm occurred, so we didn’t know what to do. We were afraid of a fire so we just shut it down, and we waited for them to come out. The guy that came explained everything. He was quick and he got it done. He did some adjusting to it, and he fixed it. He also asked me if I had a vacuum ‘cause it was a little bit messy. He cleaned everything, left it perfect, and he was a good guy.
When I submit a claim to AHS, I try not to do it online because I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a lot of times, the computer lines aren’t good, and I can’t even get online so I usually do it by phone. However, it looks like they changed the process because I’ve always spoken to a human being, and this time, I didn’t speak to a human being. I spoke to a recording. But it was actually a little bit more effective, and it moved a little bit quicker. But it took pretty close to a week before they got a contractor out because it’s one of the big problems with getting assistance up here. There are not a lot of providers covered with this insurance. So a lot of times I have to wait because a lot of their providers are based from Albuquerque, and they only come up to Santa Fe two days a week. So that’s one of my complaints with American Home Shield.
I have two homes that are covered by American Home Shield and I have not received a current policy in about three years. I have called repeatedly. I’ve been stuck on hold forever to find out why they can’t use a mailing address that works. It’s an automatic pay so they don’t bill me. It just automatically comes out of my American Express card every month. So the only thing that they ever have to mail me is the new policy. And I have not gotten a policy despite multiple calls over several years. Like last June 7, 2017, I called, and I let them know that I wasn’t getting a policy. They said they’d take care of it but nobody ever took care of it.
So consequently, I don’t even know what’s covered. It’s a hassle to have to call and guess about it. Plus, I don’t have a current number. I do now because when they booked the appointment, they told me what my new policy number was. But other than that, I wouldn’t have known it because when they renewed the contract, they changed the contract number. So I’m working with contract numbers that are several years old because I don’t have the new policy. I used to have both policies sent to the house in which I’m currently living, and neither one of them came. And I’ve clarified that address a million times. So I don’t know what they’re doing. AHS is okay, but, not to get a policy at you over a period of three years is a little ridiculous.
The other thing is, I was in the state capital. I can’t believe that I can’t find more than one guy, with one company to fix the dryer. We have plenty of people here that repair those things. And yet, they won’t deal with American Home Shield. So I would truly look to see what other companies are out there that have a better list of service providers. The clothes dryer is not critical but if it was the refrigerator, I wouldn’t be happy to wait a week.

We have a plumber in the family but because we pay almost $70 a month to this business, we called them. The company they contacted was very quick to reach out and send someone. However, due to an ACCESS ISSUE THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BROKEN PIPE, nothing was covered. The guy still was able to reach the pipe and fix it which was what I called for in the first place. The way he got to the pipe shouldn’t have mattered. I was told the part of my contract that talked about an access issue. However, AHS could have offered to help with something.
We paid almost $500 for hole in a pipe and have a HOLE IN OUR WALL because of course AHS couldn’t help with that either. The authorization supervisor Kim said she was try to help but didn’t do anything. I spoke to a gentleman that said we would get our $75 service fee returned as a courtesy but then the supervisor Kim turned around to tell me that we weren’t. I’m so unhappy with this busy. They’re supposed to help the consumer but instead they just keep raising their rates and making their contract for strict so they don’t have to pay for anything. Absolutely horrible how my issue was treated. I basically felt like I was told, “sorry, not my problem”. There was no courtesy with this at all. Next time, I’ll just have someone I know come to my house and fix something since most likely I’ll have to pay for it all myself.

If I could give this review 0 stars I would. We had a service appointment back in July 2018 on our washing machine, as we were experiencing issues with our the water draining properly. He was able to fix the present issue during the initial appointment, but informed us that our lid switch was broken and needed to be replaced. The technician scheduled a follow-up appointment for the following week, said he ordered the part and gave me the time/date they would be back. The upcoming appointment comes around, and we do not get any call or message from the technician at all. He never showed. We followed up routinely since then, please note it is now OCTOBER, and we have yet to get this resolved. Finally, I got in touch with someone, who was supposed to come out to finish the job today, 10/5. I was given the appointment window of 12-4PM. 4:30 rolls around, still no call.
I call the main telephone number to see what was going on, and was informed that the technician had the wrong number to reach me, and turns out they changed my appointment window to 3-6PM without telling me. I then received a call from the technician who asked what the appointment was for [YES, he didn't even know what needed to be fixed!] and turns out that the first technician never even submitted a request for the broken lid switch. I now have to wait TWO MORE WEEKS for another appointment, which isn't even confirmed. I cannot express my frustration enough. We still have a broken washer, no help from American Home Shield OR the technician - and we have already paid to get this replaced. If you expect timely, helpful service, I do not recommend American Home Shield. I am beyond disappointed with this experience and do not wish anyone to go through this.

Now, here it is Friday, 10/5/2018 at 5:00 pm, 48 hours later and the furnace man has not been authorized to order parts or whatever as authorization is pending. So going into the weekend, I have NO heat. Also, then of course it is Iowa, so instead of 30 degrees at night, it got up to 80 during the day, Wednesday, and then my A/C didn't work. I have it in writing from AHS on facebook messenger that I would not get charged the second $100 if they turn out to be part of the same issue because your A/C comes through your furnace system, etc. Turns out, YES, it was the same issue and so they closed the A/C claim but yet the 2nd $100 is still showing as scheduled to go through my account!
Second issue, you should not have to wait near to an hour on hold to speak with someone. That means you do NOT have enough people. I have waited twice this week and then finally got a real person and then they ask me to hold. One person did not know how to get back on the call and somehow disconnected me. The next person, today, told me to hold after 49 minutes but then somehow I got sent back to main menu. I think there isn't training there AND/OR they just hire incompetent folks. Not sure. So we ordered the part. Didn't hear from anyone for another week. Called back, on hold for almost 3 hrs this time. We're told that it was being replaced! But they were only going to give us a portion of the amount to replace it.
Was sent to another rep who told us the order for the part was never placed, and that he would place it. 2 wks pass and nothing! Called again and finally spoke to a really nice lady who was very apologetic about the runaround. She gave me her direct number, and said it would be repaired soon. In the end, it was a total of 8wks before we had our washer back. We have a family of 11 and it was definitely a struggle without a washer. Debated about canceling the policy but didn't. The competitors of AHS that I have had in the past were responsive, had good customer service and sent professional service providers (many of which I used again in the future).
All that was in the past. American Home Shield has a good online user interface and that is the extent of the positive I will share. Their customer service is non-existent, if you need to speak with someone, prepare to wait for 45 minutes on the phone as they have no customer service chat or email option for quick questions.
As far as the service providers, they have been sub-par at best. I had one provider cancel my appointment 3 times because they could not find the part needed to complete the repair. I purchase the part off the shelf at the Home Depot 3 minutes from my Home prior to the third cancellation and they stated they could not install the part because it had to be from their providers. I ended up paying another provider out of pocket for the service.
Additionally, since their provider was unable to complete the repair they provided cash in lieu of the repair. In my contract it states that the money will be received in 30 days and the representative shared that it would be to me in a week. 2.5 months later and about 3 phone calls and 2 hours on hold I received the check. I encourage you to choose another provider and to request a different warranty company to your agent if you are buying.

Back on hold again and still waiting after 15 mins. There needs to be a way that customers can comment, notify AHS of unsatisfactory service or incomplete service. No way to do this that I have found??? Have had two service request with AHS, first an AC unit not cooling, paid $240 dollars to have freon added (some warranty) and now two months later it is not cooling again.
My only option is to log another service request and pay AHS another $75 to send someone else out... AHS agrees with me on both accounts but cannot resolve. AHS asked contractor come back at no charge but contractor refuses. AHS says they will keep trying but this has been going on since June with no resolution. I already paid my service fee. AHS has stated they are having a hard time getting contractor to fulfill obligation and I am in the middle. Furthermore, each call to AHS results in a 60-90 minute wait. They really need a way to accept messages and call you back. They do not value your time. It seems If you have an issue to resolve that involves more than one AHS department it becomes very frustrating because of lack of internal communication. As best as I can tell, there is no resolutions department to help with unresolved issues such as mine.
Hi, Richard. I regret to hear that you have been dealing with an unresolved service issue for this length of time. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to assist you with a resolution.

Our warranty with American Home Shield did not benefit us the way I thought it was going to. They turned down our claim for our air conditioning unit because the unit was too small for the square footage. We just bought the house and there was no way for me to know that our air conditioning unit wasn’t the correct size. Then, I thought my garage door was covered, but it wasn't. So, we were just putting down all this money away plus $65 a month and we didn't want to do that. Despite that, it's a simple process to file claims. I do it online since I'm on the internet a lot. Everybody from American Home Shield has been always very nice, too. Even the workers who they've sent were good. It's just that people need to be more familiar with their contracts. I wish I had been more familiar with mine and had paid more attention to it.

I submitted a claim online to AHS for my refrigerator's ice machine which wasn't working. The contractors were awesome. They fixed it but then once the ice machine started working, there was something else that was wrong. When I called back the contractors came back out and fixed the other issue too. We have ice in our ice maker now. I appreciate AHS' service.

The first call we made to American Home Shield was great and the second one was where we had a plumber come. I thought the garbage disposal was bad. It was backing up. We also have a tankless water heater downstairs and it was leaking, so I thought I would get American Home Shield out here to fix the garbage disposal and the water heater. The plumber went right there and he tried to run a snake into the thing and he said that it was not going. He had to go downstairs and cut a hole on the pipe and put a drain in it. They ran the snake some more and he said that my pipe was broken underneath and that I had to have our floor dug up and new pipes put in. That would be 50-some hundred dollars and I said, “I don’t think so.” This is a concrete slab. The wooden floor has to come up and he was giving me all this crap. I didn’t run the disposal or we didn’t use the sink for a couple of days. It’s working fine and the water is draining away.
He also put on a new box in on the water heater, but it’s leaking, so I called them, and they are coming back on the 18th to look at that. When I called the company, they asked what was wrong with it. I told them I’m not a plumber and to make sure that somebody comes out here who understands what the thing is and why it's leaking. Otherwise, the GE people came out and fixed the stove lickety-split. They did a good job.

When the motor to the dishwasher was out, it took me three days to notice it. I called American Home Shield and the rep I spoke to was pleasant and informative. I had a very good experience with the contractor that came out. He was nice and professional. He had to order the motor in and it took three days to get in. Now, everything's working well. This is my first year with American Home Shield and I have recommended them to my coworkers.
