Our hot water heater quit working and I had no hot water. I called American Home Shield and I received the information on the company that would be coming. The company contacted me the next day, the guy was here the following day and everything worked fine. In the eight years that we’ve had AHS, I used it five times and I've always had prompt service. We were very pleased with the excellent service companies that they sent our requests to and I would highly recommend AHS.

My dryer quit working. I submitted a claim for it online to AHS and it was easy. It took the contractor a while to find out what was wrong ‘cause it was something unusual, but he got it done. It was great. The dryer has been working perfectly since the repair. Everything’s great with my experience with AHS.

I filed a claim over the phone for my refrigerator and I had a great interaction with the reps. They were clear, precise, and straightforward. A tech from Ashman Appliance Service came on time, fixed the problem fast, and was out the door. He also gave us a little tip on the refrigerator, so if the issue happens again, we’ll know how to fix it. The refrigerator has been working perfectly since the repair. American Home Shield is a great service and I would tell my friends to use it.

The washing machine was pouring water all over the floor. I called American Home Shield and then Sears came out and ordered the wrong part. I had to call again and reschedule and this happened again. It took about a month from the time I made the first call until it was fixed. But for the most part, everybody did what they were supposed to do and got it taken care of. The last rep I talked to was the best one. She got right on it, made phone calls, and she called me back and let me know what was going on. Also, the techs were friendly, cool, and they were apologetic. The washing machine is working fine now. They got the problem taken care of and that’s all that matters.

I have five homes and two duplexes, and I have around seven different policies with American Home Shield. The drain broke in one of my units and AHS wanted to call a plumber that was gonna come five days later. I said no and I told them that the sink was leaking in my kitchen and needed to be fixed that day. They ended up sending somebody the next day, but it bothers me when I call and tell them that I need something taken care of right away, and they don’t think it's that important.

Another experience I had is I had a garage door opener that malfunctioned and they sent a company from Bakersfield to Porterville, California, but when the guy got there, he was a total con man. He told me that the garage door opener wasn’t covered for the problem that it had. He called the insurance company and told them that it was done due to abuse, but I said that there was nothing abused there. I just had the garage door put in four years previously. He also told me that the rollers were bad and that I needed to have a new unit put in, and he could do the whole thing for $500 some dollars. I told him to pack his gear and get out of my house because the rollers were in perfect condition and I could have a whole new unit put in for $370 some from any local vendor. I called AHS and they said that they couldn't cover it if I called somebody on my own. I was about 500 miles away from home, so I was not very happy with that situation.

This was not the first time they sent me somebody that was not qualified. They also had a plumber up here in Eureka, California and the most that he did when he came was tell me about how he used to be a plumber in Hollywood and that he serviced all the stars. He did a couple of things that weren't up to code and I told him about it. He seemed to think that he could blow smoke in personal places, but I told him, “Absolutely not. We're gonna get a permit, and when they come and inspect it, they’ll tell you that it needs to be done.” And they did. The inspector came and told him that the pop-off valve had to be routed outside of the building, which he didn’t do.

A washing machine recently quit in one of my rentals, and I called AHS and told them I needed somebody to come and check it out. However, they told me that I wasn’t covered for it, so I ended up buying a new one from Poletski’s. Poletski’s was excellent and I worked with them right off. The technician's knowledge was well-exceeded-as-necessary. I extended the coverage to cover the washing machine and it is covered now. However, I would like AHS to have some operators that speak English and answer the phone within a reasonable amount of time. I've been on hold with them sometimes up to 45 minutes, just waiting for someone to answer the phone and that’s ridiculous.

I had an air-conditioning failure on a Friday afternoon and we called American Home Shield sometime during the morning on Saturday. Everything went smoothly although it took a little bit of time to get ahold of a contractor once the claim had been submitted. We submitted the claim and we didn't hear from anybody for about four hours. I didn't feel like they had dragged their feet though. I just had never done it before so I was a little unsure that I had done it correctly. And once we heard from somebody, everything was smooth sailing. The repairman was out first thing on Sunday and he fixed the air conditioner on a holiday weekend.

The repairman was very professional. I was even busy and not home so I asked him to text me. We texted back and forth and he answered any questions above and beyond the repair. He got the job done and afterwards, I asked him follow-up questions to make sure it was still working properly. The technician was still helpful with that. So I'm very pleased with the service I had received from the contractor and I'd recommend American Home Shield to a friend.

Our experience with American Home Shield sucked. They don't return calls for three or four days and the contractors they use are terrible. Once, our pool timer stopped working and my wife filed a claim for it. Knock Out Pools came out a couple of times but the unit still has not worked, so I'm not happy at all. We also had AHS send someone to fix our washing machine. The unit worked for a week and then we had to wait for another week for the contractor to come back out. We also had a claim for our fridge, but the contractor who was sent to us wasn't able to fix the issue. We called AHS to get somebody else and we've been waiting for three days now to hear back.

I purchased the house 10 months ago and signed up with American Home Shield. I realized that the refrigerator was broken. The company that AHS contracted came out two days after I placed the phone call. They were very professional. They looked for the part for another week. When they couldn’t find it, AHS gave me the option of $1,050 or the same refrigerator. I wanted a different refrigerator so I just went ahead and bought a brand-new one within that price, sent them the receipt and they sent me the check. Everything was very quick. I also had an electrical issue and they sent out the person right away. The AHS reps are all nice, polite and cordial but they can do better. The first time I called them, I spoke with somebody from India and I couldn’t understand them. But when I called the second time, everything was fine.

Most of the contractors American Home Shield sent out were fine. Sometimes, I would like to get another opinion from somebody that I’ve worked with in the past because I noticed a lot of times, they like to send out the same people. But they were open to that, which wasn’t a problem. I had some issues when we first bought the house and it seemed like there was some work done, from looking through the closing documents and stuff like that. There was work done on some of the appliances by some of the same companies that were coming out when I called them. So, I wanted to get another opinion and I asked if I could. They have certain contractors they call and the ones that I wanted were still under the working relationship whatever of the warranty company.

We had people come out and look at our furnace and it was just one of those deals where the same contractors were coming out to look at that same furnace. A company was recommended to come out and they were open to it. Although most recently, the dishwasher wasn’t working and the wait was pretty long on the phone. Most of the time, it's over 15 minutes. My wife submitted a claim one time on the internet and it was a pretty good turnaround for that, but sometimes we don’t always have access to the computer to do that. Other than that, everything has been fine so far.

My bottom oven and one of my burners were not working. So I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They said they would have somebody contact me within 24 hours. Then a person contacted me and scheduled an appointment within a day or two. When he came here, he was very friendly. He looked at the stove for about 15 minutes and then he knew exactly what was wrong. He told me what it was that was wrong and what the parts were that he needed to get. Then he said it typically takes a few days to a week to get the parts in, and he could fix it. He called me in about a week and then he came out the next day and replaced the parts. It was great. The oven and the burner are perfect now. They're like they've always been. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. That's also why I have them. Some of my friends have them and recommended them.

One time, we had a problem when our kitchen sink got stopped. It was blocked up because I had put something down there that shouldn't have been there. More recently, we had another problem with our bathroom. The gentleman who came out to do the work showed up on time and was very efficient. He did a good job with the problem and we haven't had any problems since then.

Skip to the end for the bottom line... Our home warranty was originally purchased by the sellers of the home we bought in June 2017. Almost immediately we began to have trouble with our AC. During 90+ degree weather, with the temperature at 90 degrees and climbing in our home, we were told that a service contractor had 24 hrs to contact us and another 24-48 hours to schedule the appointment within. In other words, we could be without working AC for up to 3 days with 3 young children in our house in south Louisiana. I should have gave up on it then.

From that point we had a revolving door of contractors who either didn't have the knowledge or couldn't be bothered to make a diagnosis on our AC. The AC didn't cool and we constantly had leaking issues where the indoor unit poured water through our ceiling. (By the way, AHS conveniently does not cover secondary damage - even if it's ongoing for a year!) We could not get anybody to actually diagnose the problem and request authorization to fix. Our drain line was "blown out" at least 4 times in a year, outside coils were cleaned twice and we still had no resolution.

In June, our warranty expired and I was torn about what to do. We hadn't received any benefit whatsoever from the service, however, we still had unresolved issues with our AC and were at the point where we, at least, weren't being charged a service charge every time a new contractor came out to try to diagnose the issue. The only cost at this point was my time as I took off work to spend time waiting and dealing with the contractor. To make this clear - looking at my online account, we had 8 service calls since July 2018 alone, so you could assume that every other week I was spending time with contractors that I should have been working or doing other important stuff and this doesn't even include the time I spent on the phone with AHS.

I spoke with a salesperson, expressed my concerns about the effectiveness of the warranty and asked if I could cancel at any time. She advised me that the contract was month to month, so I could cancel as needed. (This is important - you'll see why if you make it to the end). Anyway - In the meantime our water heater went out. The plumber that American Home Shield sent out quoted us $2500 for out of pocket costs to "bring the water heater to code" - essentially, we needed a drain pan installed.

I was told that our only recourse for this outrageous amount would be to pay an additional service fee to have a 2nd plumber come out and give us a new quote. Obviously, we took the cash in lieu and received ~ $400 for our water heater which cost $500 to buy and our time and effort to install... could be worse, I suppose, but of course now the water heater would no longer be covered by AHS since we didn't use a licensed contractor. The day after our water heater bit the dust, we once again had water pouring out of the ceiling. Another HVAC tech came and went with no resolution in sight. I was at the point where I was in tears every time I had to call AHS.

At the end of my rope I agreed to have one last HVAC contractor come out. He decided that we were low on freon (despite the fact that every other contractor that bothered to check for this advised that freon was fine), there must be a leak and proceeded to indicate that we were missing several other parts such as a liquid line dryer, and drain line insulation. This, of course, voided any chance of AHS covering the AC issues regardless of whether these "missing" parts contributed to the issues or not. He did not perform a leak check. I was quoted $1800 out of pocket for the work to fix these issues and informed that once the work was complete I would have no trouble getting AHS to cover my AC. Why on earth would I want AHS if I have to pay for everything out of pocket and you are supposedly fixing my issues?!

Of course, I declined and decided that now is the time to go ahead and cancel my warranty. I called today and requested to cancel and was advised that I would be charged an administration fee which is the same amount as my monthly payment to cancel. Never once was this mentioned when I spoke with the salesperson and was concerned about renewing. I can guarantee that I would not have renewed had it been made clear that there would be a charge to cancel - I am not interested in giving these people any more money than necessary.

Since I still had AC issues, I called an actual experienced HVAC technician to come out last week and for $390 he installed a drain clean outline (something that several techs had informed me was not necessary, mind you) so that I could pour bleach through and try to clear out the sludge build up that was causing the water to back up out of my drain pan and through my ceiling. He informed me that if we couldn't get the drain clean enough with bleach, we may need a plumber, but once it's clean we can continue to complete regular maintenance to prevent the issue from happening again.

He informed me that my freon levels were fine and he didn't see any indication of a leak and that basically I was getting scammed. I tend to believe this guy who has nothing to gain by lying and a new customer to gain by actually providing good service. He's also been in business for 40 years and has only 5-star reviews on Google. He refuses to work with Home Warranty Companies because of the way they operate.

Bottom Line: I've paid $720 of my own money, plus $625 of my home sellers money for this warranty. I've only received ~$400 of benefit. So I've recouped 30% of my costs - not including my time in dealing with this mess, completing my own installs and then of course the $390 I paid to a reputable HVAC tech to actually DO something. I've continuously felt like I was backed into a corner, did not have a choice in companies or even the contractors that were sent out (even when I specifically requested a certain contractor not return, he was sent back again), and AHS will do anything they can to get out of covering an item.

This product is not even close to worth it and I have been continuously misled, lied to, manipulated and otherwise rendered helpless in the care of my own home. AHS claims they sell peace of mind, but what you get is stress, expense and a complete lack of ownership from anybody who actually works for AHS. My recommendation would be to take the $67/month that you would spend on your warranty and put it in a savings account. Use that money when something goes wrong - don't assume that AHS will be useful when it comes time for a total AC replacement - chances are they're find a loophole to make sure it's not covered OR the technician will find a way to recoup their costs (or just get out of the work) by giving an outrageous quote. Plus, many issues can be repaired by a good technician anyway.

They promised me and gave me their personal accountability to fix my issue. They all lied to me and continued lying to me every time I called. No one ever followed up. Once they get there they will not be able to fix it the first time (because they work for a horrible contractor and are unprepared). Then you wait several more days for the "repair". You are MUCH better off saving the money monthly or paying a reputable local service provider (especially for something time sensitive like HVAC). STAY AWAY!!! I provided details on my experience, the company's social media expert asked for more information (I don't know why social media either. I don't have a problem with their website, Facebook, etc. It's their actual service that's an issue). Anyway, we had a pool electric issue, the guy came out, fixed a portion of the problem and said he needed a light for some of it and we needed a regular electrical guy to fix the rest of it and we had to put it another service request. He would be back in a week for the light. Found out that the pool light wasn't covered, which is fine, we would just pay the guy. A week later, the pool guy shows up, asks us what he was suppose to do as it wasn't written down, we tell him pool light, he says they don't replace pool lights. Did he not know that a week earlier?

In the meantime, we put a service request in for the electrical issues. An electrician came out, said he didn't have the part needed and would come back. (Why would a company waste a service call and not reach out to the homeowner is beyond me). Also, AHS' website doesn't allow for comments about the issue, only to request a specific trade (plumbing, electrical, etc.). Days later no electrician came back or called AND AHS charged us for the deductible for work not even started. We ended up getting a more reputable vendor as it was the only way to get the work done. Really, I'm not making this up!

Now the dishwasher isn't working, which we think is related to the electrical issue that happened weeks ago. We are afraid to request service through AHS Warranty for fear of more deductible charges for work not completed and more unresolved issues. Honestly, I have never had to use a home warranty service so much on any home I've purchased but sometimes you need to. At this point, it would be best to get a full refund of all deductible amounts paid and the premium fee and be done with all these issues. All companies will have customer service issues, what separates good companies from bad ones is how they handle the issues. I'll keep you posted as to what happens next. AHS, please respond with a name and number of a manager that can handle this. I don't have the patience to deal with your customer service reps any longer (see previous reviews on that issue).

I requested service for a pool pump that is making so much noise it’s disturbing my surrounding neighbors. Not to mention obviously not working as the manufacturer expects. Their “tech” came out and said it’s not covered because it’s not completely broke down. I admit it’s maintaining proper pressure but it sounds like a bucket of bolts are in the mechanism. I asked “Is it supposed to sound that way?" (It’s a Pentair WHISPERFLO, keyword whisper.) The “tech” admitted no. I asked “Is it making that noise because something is worn out and not working as intended..." "Yes" he replied. “But it’s not a mechanical failure” he kept saying. "If it’s not a mechanical failure then what is it?" He didn’t answer.

Frustrated I left a bad review for the tech. Shortly after a representative of the company contacted me and went back and forth with me again then finally said AHS wouldn’t replace it because it’s making a noise...it’s not a mechanical failure. I wish I could attach a sound file of how loud it sounds, it’s extremely loud. It’s actually embarrassing it’s so loud. So I will replace it on my own and once again AHS doesn’t fix something they clearly should. If my furnace was heating at 1% will they not fix it because it’s not a complete “mechanical failure”? Buyer beware, AHS doesn’t hold up their end of the contract.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield online was super easy. We have called them a couple of times and it has been a smooth experience both times. One time, we had to have somebody come in for our air conditioning and before that, it was for our dishwasher. The night that our AC went out, I went online on my phone and submitted the claim. I got an automatic email and text which gave me the number of Appliance Express, the contracting company that was gonna be in touch with me. If I did not hear from them, I could give them a call. But I heard straight back from them.

The tech that came out was a young kid and he was very thorough and polite. He put on booties over his shoes so he did not track anything in the house. He also gave us an idea of what the problem was with our AC. It turned out that there was an electrical problem with it. So, he called his manager to confirm that it was something that could be handled through our home warranty, and it was. He fixed our AC that same day and it has been working perfectly since the repair. Getting a warranty with American Home Shield is worth every nickel.

The contractor found the problem and resolved it in one visit. Since then, my tenants haven't had any more problems with the AC. When people tell me they have a rental property and I ask if they have insurance on it, I say American Home Shield is worth it. As soon as my tenants call, I always get to their stuff within half a day. Plus, it's nice to be able to just log on, tell my tenants that I've submitted a claim and they should be getting a call in due time.

The water from the AC wasn’t seeping into the ground and it started overflowing into our basement. There were two people who came in. The AC contractor said that he couldn't repair it and that we've got to make a $700 change to the system. He would put a condensation pump and do a different place for the water. The plumbing guy that came out couldn't do it as well as it was not his area. So we took his help in fixing the showerhead that was leaking and he was good.

We ended up paying 100 bucks for air conditioner contractor and we didn’t like the fact that he didn’t give a solution that really worked. So then we called someone from Home Depot and the guy charged 200 bucks, and then he cleared the problem. However, the American Home Shield reps were really responsive, and they took our inputs when we called. One of the agents also helped us cancel an extra charge that was on our account.

The contractor who came out was excellent as well. He resolved the problem quickly and was a nice guy. He was also friendly and he cleaned up. Other than that, you can never get anybody on the phone with AHS if you have a specific question that is not on their website and that is frustrating. Plus, there are a couple of companies that I would never have out to my home again. But on the flip side, there are a couple that I would like to use repeatedly when the time arises, but there is nowhere to specify that type of comment on the website when you need service.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield for my garbage disposal was easy. I called and the rep that helped me was good. They knew what they were talking about. The contractor came and looked at the garbage disposal. It had to be replaced but then they didn’t put the claim in to get the new one. It took 10 more days for it to get in, and the contractor came back out and put it back in. It was hooked up to my dishwasher and my dishwasher didn’t drain because he didn’t knock the plug out in the garbage disposal. I had to go in and do all that, but it didn’t work. I rewired it just to make it work. American Home Shield is a really good investment. They always do a great job. Whenever I call them, they get a contractor on the phone. They did exactly what they said they were supposed to.

I had a refrigerator issue and American Home Shield sent out a repairman that was not capable of repairing it. I refused to pay that guy as he couldn’t work on it. The next one that came out was very nice, good, and really comfortable with his knowledge. He fixed the refrigerator immediately, and I paid for the $75 service fee. Then AHS kept billing and telling me I haven't paid. I thought that the refrigerator was one of the ones they kept trying to bill me for and I called at least nine times. They said that it was for the water heater and they took that out automatically. Then we’d get another bill and they would say that I haven't paid for this. It’s driving us crazy and that’s still going on. But I’ve been very fortunate with not having to wait on the phone for 16 hours to file a claim. Other than the refrigerator, I’ve gotten really quick responses on my repairs. The problems that I have had have been fixed pretty much and I would recommend them.

American Home Shield is really good. When the washer stopped working, I submitted a claim online and it was a breeze. You just create a claim and go from there. I opened a ticket, they sent a text message with the status, and AmeriCare Appliance Repair showed up and fixed the problem. Their tech figured out that something got disconnected. He said that he looked at the washer, that there was a panel issue, and he fixed it. Then, AHS took the deductible from my credit card and I didn’t have to pay anybody anything.

I’m happy with American Home Shield and so far, the contractors that came out have kept the area clean and they put on the shoes and the cloth on the shoes. Also, after I submitted my claims, some of them got resolved the next day while some of them took three days or more than two weeks. In one case, one of them took a day or two before they came out and in another case, it took four days. But nothing was major. And sometimes, they had to come and order parts then they'd give me a heads up that the parts were in. Other than that, they knew what they were doing and they were experts in the field. I would recommend AHS. I used DTE before and they had a $0 deductible plan. Even the premium is a little more with AHS compared to them. But I don't mind paying a higher premium with AHS and if they come up with a plan with a lower deductible than the $100 I'm currently paying, I would appreciate it.

There have been several issues with the vendors that American Home Shield sends out. When I called them, I told them I wasn't sure where the water was coming from. So, they sent someone out to look at the washing machine. It wasn't the washing machine, it was the actual plumbing. Then they charged me $75 for that. When they sent someone out to do the plumbing, they tried to charge me another $75 when I initially told them I didn't know where the water was coming from. Plus they didn't indicate who they were sending out. They should be patient enough to understand what I'm saying and send the right person out. If I ask them not to send a certain vendor out, they shouldn't send that vendor. Other than that, things are fine.

I also had a little issue with the fact that when I initially started with American Home Shield, the price was one thing but now it appears to be going up. At some point, I may have to switch to another insurance claim company just because it's $60 a month now and that's pretty high. Overall, I would refer them but I would caution the cost.

Our garage door would go halfway down then go back up. We didn't want it to stay like that because inside the garage, there is a door that is the entrance to the house. There was also one guy who was coming around. He told me all about a security system and he said there had been a lot of vandalism in the area. He said people were finding a way to get through the garage doors. That was why I called American Home Shield and the lady I spoke to was very helpful and knowledgeable. She scheduled appointments, sent me an email and told me who was coming. Then I set up the appointment. She did a good job.

The garage door had to be manually pulled down and locked. We come home late at night and we had to get out, go in the house, get the door, go back to the car and then pull the car in. When the technician came out and checked the door, he called American Home Shield up and verified some coverages to see what was gonna be covered and what was not. After he got off the phone, he put something on the door and it was working. It goes up and down now. But he said the problem may happen again because of a part. It won't be their problem though. It'll be the LiftMaster itself.

The garage door has been there since 1990 and he said our home warranty company doesn't like to replace things. But if something breaks and goes out, why wouldn't they wanna replace? If it goes out, the warranty will probably cover the motor. But there are some things beyond what they can do. Nonetheless, the service is worth the money that I pay American Home Shield because one call would be more than that. And every time I've called, they've helped me out. Whatever's broken, they fix it.

I requested Lesane Heating & Air because they serviced it over the years. I'm comfortable with them as well as I have a familiarity of the maintenance people that come by my house. This time, the contractor who was sent was on time and very professional. I got an hour note, sometimes a half hour note in the past, before they arrive. Sometimes they also call a day before they're gonna arrive and say the time. So, I'm very impressed with their service.

I had a repair about five years ago for the same unit, and this time is the only occurrence of something else. They gave me a clean-out service and left. But the same problem appeared a few days later. They didn't change out any parts the first time but maybe the part was about to drop, which it did one week later. Still, Lesane came back out to fix the problem. It was within a one-week occurrence so American Home Shield waived the second service call fee, which was very nice of them to do so. I didn't have to pay a service fee and everything is okay now.

I've been an American Home Shield customer for a very long time and my experience with submitting a claim online has been fantastic. It's very easy to put in claims online but if I call in, I will be on hold for half an hour to 45 minutes. Also, every time I called, I spoke to a girl and she was not really on the friendly side. The reps are probably overworked or swamped with calls but when I have a problem at my home, the last thing I wanna deal with is someone with an attitude.

When we first signed up with AHS, it used to be a little bit more difficult. One time, they sent out a person who wanted to fix the AC but did a shabby job and we had to get someone else. He added freon and charged more for recharging the AC and my bill came out to be huge compared to just having out of pocket. I complained to AHS and they gave me credit and had someone come out and fix the unit.

I also put in a claim online when the inside fan of my AC broke. It was one o'clock in the morning and someone got in touch with me at eight o'clock in the morning. The techs could make it the same day but I couldn't on my part. They came out the second day and they found that the unit needed more work so they got the approval. They did not only do the work that needed to be done but they also did other maintenance stuff that prevented the unit from going bad in the future. I have two homes with AHS and I'm happy and satisfied. Their service has improved since I started with them six years ago and the last few times we've had an issue has not been difficult. We moved about 14 times in the military and we’ve used American Home Shield off and on dating back 20-something years. This is our retirement home now and when we bought it, we got some credit from American Home Shield on our contract and then we updated to the full service. My husband loves having them and we’d recommend the warranty.

When I thought one of my lights wasn’t working, the electrician came out and looked at it. He said it looked like it wasn't really an electrical problem. It was just in the system. There are two light switches and one was on when the other one was not on. We had only been in the home for a little bit so it was just a glitch on how to make it work. The electrician was great. In fact, the company was so good that I used them again three more times to replace some light fixtures for and update. I really liked them. American Home Shield's referrals are great so I appreciate it.

I did that claim online and the online site was great. The only glitch is when you go online, you can schedule for service but then if you wanna cancel you’re already charged. Then the process of getting refunded, if you change your mind or you find that it's working, is the hardest part because the lines are really long for answering.

When I had a leak in my roof, I wasn’t sure if it was a plumbing issue but I went online and they charged me $75. It wasn’t a plumbing issue so I cancelled that and they got a roofer to come out. American Home Shield refunded us but there was a long wait and the first representative didn’t process it. So a week later, I called back and waited again. Then the representative reprocessed and the money was refunded. The only thing I would recommend is expediting more callers to get through and then training them a little bit more on how to process a refund and the whole process if something doesn’t work. It was frustrating to have to keep calling and waiting. But otherwise, the service is great.

It is now Oct. 15, 2018. On July 24th, 2018 I called to report I had a leak in my living room ceiling. They sent a contractor out to check it and see what the problem was. He said that the duct work was old and the bands on it had cut into it and rusted and it had made holes in it and the condensation was leaking into our ceiling. He also said that the whole duct work needed to be replaced and that he would send in the request for it. We waited and waited and never heard from him, so I called him to see what the problem was. He said he was waiting on approval from AHS to do the work. So, we waited some more. In the mean time, I called AHS and the contractor several times. The contractor would tell me one thing and AHS was telling me something else about why the work had not been done. This was numerous calls between July 24 to Oct. 15, 2018.

Finally, my husband called the contractor to see what the problem was at the end of Sept. and he said that the material was coming in that Friday and he would be here on the 28th of Sept. to finish the job. He did not show up. I called AHS back to let them know and find out what was going on. They called the contractor and the contractor was suppose to call us. The contractor was telling us that he was waiting on AHS to pay him for the job so that he could get the material to come and finish it.

AHS is telling me that they never pay the contractor until the job is finished. My husband finally called the contractor again and he told my husband that his company was a small company and that he just didn't have the money to buy the material to finish that job. I told my husband why didn't he tell us that to begin with. Now it's been almost 3 months and in the mean time, we have water leaking into our living room ceiling which is a very expensive wood ceiling. When I ask AHS who is going to pay for our ceiling that is being ruined because they haven't gotten anyone out here to fix it, they just say, oh we don't pay for damages, we only fix the problem.

Well, the problem still hasn't been fixed and my ceiling is being ruined. At the time the contractor first came out to check the problem, he told them at the time that there was probably already $2,000.00 worth of damage at that time, and it's been three months since then and the problem still hasn't been fixed. Now they have sent me to the approval department that last time I called to see why it hasn't been done. He called the contractor to find out what the problem was and he finally told him that he didn't have the funds to pay for the material to finish the job.

So now, he has sent it to a different department so they can find me a different contractor in my area to do the job. I told him they should have already done that because when I called the week before, I told the lady I spoke with that I did not want that contractor sent back to my house for anything! So it should have been sent to the dispatch department the week before to find another contractor to finish the job. That was last week I spoke to someone at AHS the last time, and I told him I would give him 2 days to find someone else and get them here to finish the job. He said someone would call me in the next 24 hours and let me know who would be coming out to finish the job.

We are into the next week and I have yet to hear from anyone about coming to finish the job! I have tried 3 times to call them today to find out what the problem is, the first time I was told it was over and hour wait time, so, I hung up and was going to try back later. The next time I called they said it was over a 1 1/2 hour wait time, so I decided if I was going to get to talk to anyone I had better stay on hold, so I put the phone on speaker and laid it down beside me. It was on hold for about 45 minutes and then a voice came on saying that they were having phone problems and to call back later and it cut me off. I called back again and it said it was over and hour wait time again and to put my name and number in and it would have someone call me back in 30 to 45 minutes. I haven't had a call back yet.

I am sick of this garbage. My ceiling is being ruined because they haven't gotten anyone out here to fix it in 3 months and yet they tell me they are not liable for the damage that it is doing to my ceiling. I mean really, how long do they think they are suppose to be allowed time to fix anything before they get the job done. I think it's time I called the commissioner of insurance for my state and find out a few things, and let them deal with the situation, and if that doesn't work, then I guess a lawyer is the next step. Then they can pay to have the ductwork fix, pay to have my ceiling fixed, and pay for my lawyers fees and court cost also!! I have had enough!!!

You want to contact customer service? You're screwed. Over an hour hold to speak to someone and even then they don't do anything to help. There isn't an email address. There isn't online chat. They take your money, but what do they do with it? Nothing to help you. This place is awful. They've done this to me too many times. Time to find a company that actually does something to help.

Updated on 10/16/2018: I called AHS again last night because my account look like it was being charged for a service call that never happened because after my basement was flooding, and we spoke with the people they contract with, they still told us it wouldn't be until the next day. In the meantime, my basement is flooded. We had to call someone else. So I'm paying out of pocket for another provider after AHS is taking my money every month. I checked my account and saw that it was being charged anyway.

I waited on hold for an hour AGAIN to speak to someone. I was told that voice recognition said I canceled the call? Never did. I asked if there was ever a time you don't have to wait on hold for an hour. I was told 1:00 AM. "I'm sorry, 1:00 AM?! Really?" I was told there was a chat line. Nope. I tried numerous devices on different internet connections and while there's the button, it never worked.

The customer service person told me that I'm obviously finding benefit to this service since I've had it for 12 years. Then it dawned on me. I haven't found any benefit. I need to stop paying them so much money for them to not do anything. They take the money, but they don't help. So I asked her also, "Since my basement is flooded and now there's damage and it was made worse waiting for you, what now." "Call homeowners insurance." Nice. So you know my basement is flooding. I'm told 2 day wait. Of course I don't wait that long because who would? And now in addition to the monthly premium for AHS my insurance would have to go up? What can she help me with she asks. "What CAN you help me with," I ask. She said there isn't anything she can do. So, WHY ASK? If you can't help, you can only take my money and give attitude, why ask. HORRIBLE SERVICE.

I tried to schedule a service appointment today (October 15th) and American Home Warranty will not schedule the service because the previous owner has not paid the bill. In my opinion they are holding me liable for service that was requested and performed by and for another person. Maria was the customer service person that I worked with.

Recently, I had some dishwasher issues and American Home Shield was able to have somebody come out to diagnose the issue and order the parts. We're waiting for the parts to come in and when they do, it will get fixed. The tech that came was a nice guy. However, it seems like sometimes, it takes a while to get things done. When something like a washer, dryer or dishwasher breaks, you wanna have it fixed the next day. The techs get out here as quickly as they can, but it's never as quickly as you think it should be. Still, most of the contractors that we have experienced working with have been knowledgeable and professional.

I feel better and more comfortable knowing that if my heating system breaks, it's not gonna cost me an arm and a leg to get it fixed. It's important, especially when you have a home where things are getting older and companies don’t make things as good as they used to anymore. We've had a couple of things like dishwashers, clothes dryers and other appliances that have broken and it's nice to know that we can get them replaced with quality appliances and it's taken care of in a relatively quick manner. It's a $100 deductible rather than going out and spending $1,500 to $1,800 for a new appliance.

My washing machine was making all kinds of noises, so I called American Home Shield. Their contractor examined it and reported back to American Home Shield what was going on. AHS made the decision to replace it but I didn't want to. Then, Sears was supposed to call me to let me know when they were gonna deliver but hey never did. I got a call at 8 o'clock one morning, telling me that they were on their way to deliver the washing machine. That time, I was not at my place and it was only my son and daughter-in-law who happened to be around. I would have made an arrangement but then my son had to do it. Also, Sears said that they couldn't install the washing machine because my pipes are rusted. They put WD-40 and they were able to get one off and then another but then they told me that they would come back and install it within 30 days which is ludicrous.

I had to call for another plumber to come out and had to pay for him again. The 2nd plumber was on time and very courteous though. He took a look and the issue didn't even seem to be a big deal. He replaced the pipes and installed the washing machine. He finished the job in 20 minutes. I dealt with them before on air conditioning and they've been one of the few that have been consistent and does what they're supposed to do.

I've had others that I don't care for though and AHS could do little better with vendor management. There have been times when I've had to wait forever for service from somebody even if they contacted me within 48 hours, which is too long if it was serious. Sometimes, I have to schedule a way out which is not good. When I get somebody good, the next thing I know, they're gone. For example, the Mousley Plumbers were very good and that's who I thought was coming because I live in the area but they were no longer with AHS.

Also, American Home Shield’s rates are high. Now that they would have to replace my washing machine, I’m expecting them to increase my monthly payment, which is what they did last time. This is really messed up because I know everybody is in this business to make money but when you consider my payments every month, having something replaced once every five years is not unreasonable.

There were several issues with the air conditioning and I went online to submit the claims to American Home Shield. The people that they sent out were amazingly professional. The first time, the evaporator coil was destroyed and the second time, the drain wasn’t correct. The third time, they did some tuning and that was the last issue that we’ve had with it. I watched all the work that the contractor was doing. He asked me questions about the issues that we were having and showed me some of the things that he was doing to remediate the problem. He was completely transparent with everything. I’m satisfied with American Home Shield and the company that they’ve partnered with to come and fix it. For a company that provides warranties for purchases for a house, AHS has been pretty solid.

My AC went out in the summertime and American Home Shield sent one gentleman out. He came and said that he was gonna charge me to clean the unit and that the unit was frozen over. I told him that I wasn't paying him and I thought that he was repairing the unit but he didn’t. I also didn’t know whether he was gonna get more money out of me and I thought that was what I paid American Home Shield for. I was in the backyard and he walked out without me even knowing. So, American Home Shield sent another technician out who fixed the problem perfectly.

One service before that, a contractor came out to fix the washing machine and he broke my door. I have brand new doors through the entire house and I just had the door put on in July. He broke the door for the washing machine so I brought it back over to American Home Shield. I told them that they sent the contractor to my house and he broke the door, but they said that it was not their responsibility. The contractor denied that he did but nobody else did it, so I ended up replacing the door myself. American Home Shield needs to take responsibility for the contractors. If they come out and break something in someone’s home, then American Home Shield needs to cover that because they sent the contractors there to do the work. Other than that, I haven't had a really bad experience.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. Appliances break all the time and I've used them at least six times this year for plumbing issues on pipes and leaks. If I have to call a plumber, it's gonna cost me a lot of money. Also, they're usually very timely. I've recommended somebody to get them before and I'll recommend them still.

The guy that came in from Fort Summer was very apologetic that it took him so long to get out here. I was very, very pleased. I also used AHS for my AC unit and the contractor that they sent out was also great and very professional. My AC unit lasted a week after the repair, and then the connectors let go, so we reopened the claim. I looked at the unit and saw loose connections, so we just tightened it up, which the contractor wouldn't have known. But it was no issue.

American Home Shield has been phenomenal from the get-go and I have recommended them to everybody. But I wish that they would look more into the generator service contract. I’m a generator tech by trade, and if you break a very large part in them, you’d pocket several thousand dollars to do replacement. So, to have something like that covered would be beneficial for a homeowner as well.

Our fridge stopped working. At first, I called Sears but then they said I had to call American Home Shield so I went online to resubmit the claim. When I did, AHS' website wasn’t working. I tried several times online and it just kept coming up with an error every time I did it. They should make sure that the website works so that you don’t need to sit on the phone at all. If you have a case open and you want to get the tech to come out again because the issue isn’t fixed, instead of coming up with an error message, it would be nice if the website actually worked.

Eventually, I had to call to submit it. I waited for an hour on hold. A rep answered and said, “Just hold a second. We’ll get you an appointment.” Then the line went dead and I had to go through the whole thing again. It was another hour and when they went offline, they didn’t finish doing whatever they needed to do. In the end, I spent over two hours on the phone. There should have been a way that even if they hung up on me, they would call me back.

American Home Shield sent a contractor out who determined that the issue was the compressor. Thereafter, he ordered the compressor. However, by the time he got the part in and returned to install it, he said the fridge was working well enough and he didn’t wanna put the part in. The fridge ran for another few weeks and stopped working again. The tech had to order parts twice because he figured the problem was one thing, and then he changed his mind and figured it was a different thing. In the end, it was only the fan that was replaced. Still, the tech was nice, friendly, and knowledgeable.

We first called at the end of July and we just got the fridge fixed last Friday. It was frustrating that it took so long when calls were entered to get them out, and then there was the waiting for parts. All my other experiences have been better than that. Even so, I would recommend the warranty to an old person who isn’t able to do much themselves and doesn’t have anybody else who would come in and help them. However, for myself and the $75 call out, I could’ve fixed pretty much all of the issues that I had them deal with. The fridge would’ve been fixed in days rather than months.

But it was considered as an upgrade and not a replacement because of the type of Freon. So I had an option of doing that, or he told me I had the option of repairing the leak. So I opted to upgrade my AC system at that time. American Home Shield paid a portion, and I paid the other portion. By the time I placed the call, the technician came out. Updated on 05/28/2019: Issue still unresolved. Still receiving the usual runaround. I have spoke with customer service multiple times and was told again that it would be resolved. Still waiting.

Original Review: We’re up in the mountains and we had some ductwork issues. The heat wasn’t coming up on the second floor of the house. So, I checked with American Home Shield whether they covered it. They said they did and so we started the ball rolling in February. They sent out a contractor who was professional, came out as a workman, looked at everything, and then he submitted his report. From my standpoint, American Home Shield thought he was either too expensive or they didn’t like what he wanted to do. They said they were getting a second opinion.

So they got a second opinion. We played phone tag with those guys for three months trying to get them out here. That didn’t happen. Then, they went to another guy and I wouldn’t let this guy come to my house without me being there. He showed up in his regular truck with a flat tire. And he went under, and looked at what he said needed to be done. For about four to five months, I still didn’t hear anything. Then I got a message saying I need to pay $75 for a fee. That was fine with me but the guy never came. I asked American Home Shield what happened and they said they closed it out. I told them that no one called me to tell me what was happening.

They transferred me to supervisors. They kept giving me the runaround. The work has still not been completed and we’re going on seven months of trying to get this thing handled. So I asked them if we could just go back to the original guy because he was professional and showed up when he was supposed to. He gave me a report of what needs to be done but he just stopped returning my phone calls.

Then the guy who was supposed to come hasn't shown up four to five different times. It has been a total nightmare. I’ve used American Home Shield for the water heater and it was fantastic. They got it fixed. They sign people up to buy these warranties and then depending on what needs to be fixed, they decide whether they’re gonna do it and they just shop around to find the cheapest guy to do the work.

I had a problem with my A/C system, so AHS sent a company out in August. The technician said his company did not deal with the duct system and it was a leakage in the duct system causing the problem. I entered another work order for the duct system. AHS called me to say that I should not have entered a new order (which costs $75), but should have transferred the old order to a new company. The rep canceled the new work order and said they would contact the first company, get the diagnosis and then transfer it. I waited and then called to make sure it was done. I was told that the new company would call.

4 weeks went by and no call. I called AHS and the representative said it was my fault that I did not call to check on things sooner! They said someone would call. They would check back with me before their shift ended to be sure there was follow up this time. Sounded good. But the contractor never called... and neither did the rep. So 3 days later I called again and was told the work order had been canceled! After putting me on hold to check on it, I was cut off!!! So, I called again and was told the same. Now, they STILL have to contact the company that came in August to find see what the issue was, and THEN they have to call a new company to fix it. I filed the request in August. It is now October 14 and it has not been resolved. This time, I recorded the conversation so that I'll won't have to go through it all again. This is the most frustrating repair I've ever had done.

I had had a contract with AHS for two years and was largely happy with it, until my automatic payment was increased with no notification or request. When I contacted the toll-free number I encountered several representatives whose accents were so thick as to make it very hard to communicate and decipher what they were saying.

When asked why I was not asked or informed about the rate increase. I was told I would be transferred to escalations - instead, they dropped my call. After calling back, I was told they were not allowed to transfer me, at which point I requested a supervisor. As I was being transferred, I heard the rep mocking me and then I was placed on hold for 10 minutes. I am frustrated with the poor customer service more than the increase in rates and will be canceling my account.

AHS resolved my complaint. After allowing me to get a 2nd plumbers opinion, the leak was found and fixed. I provided an AHS representative with the invoice and a photo. After discussing it, AHS is reimbursing me what I paid to have the pipe fixed. I am giving a 4-star waiting because AHS was proactive in contacting me after my review and worked with me to fix my issue and cover the plumbing issue. I deducted one star because their preferred contractor was horrible and caused the issue to be more than what it should have been.

    Original Review: Oct. 14, 2018

I purchased a home in March of 2018 and requested a home warranty because it is an older home. They purchased the ShieldPlus which covers systems. This month (October) after getting a new AC installed, I was informed by the technician that I had water in my crawl space. Nothing was noted in the home inspection regarding pipes, etc. I paid the $75.00 service fee and a plumber came out. First - I am very displeased with the contractor. They sent someone who my wife said looked very young and 'stoned' out of his mind. He was there for only a short time and said the galvanized pipes were rusted and needed to be replaced. For about 3-4 days my account said "authorization under review". I never heard from AHS.

I had to call repeatedly and I got slightly different answers each time. But in sum, because the pipes will need "modifications" they aren't covered. So I will be calling a new plumber (their contractor is worthless; no weekend hours and never has a manager - just office staff - to speak to) and finding out a second opinion and getting my issue resolved. Needless to say, the "devil is in the details" - while my contract supposedly covers plumbing - it doesn't. Needless to say, I will not renew with this company, they will find a way for them not to cover your repairs. Save yourself time and aggravation - don't buy their warranties. Oh, and they were quite happy to take and keep my $75.00. Buyer beware!

I have called AHS twice this year. Once for a pool repair and this last week for a plumbing stoppage. In both cases the contractor came up with reasons why they were not covered. The pool they had an ok reason, my tenant may have been the reason. For the Plumbing stoppage, Loyalty Home Services came out. A terrible company. I have checked their reviews on other sites since they came out and they are not good. I don't know why AHS uses them, they must be really cheap.

Anyways, Loyalty came out. Said I have a lateral line clog and he needed to leave and get a long snake and he would be back later. To access the clog he would to get on the roof. I showed him the ground level clean outs next to the house, but he didn't want to use those. Well 10 minutes after he left I got a call from AHS saying that roof access was not allowed per the contract and I was on my own. I asked to be transferred to someone else. I was on hold for 5 minutes and then was disconnected.

I called back and after being on hold for 30 minutes, I spoke to CS rep and recall was started. Since the roof was a no go I asked them to snake the ground level main cleanouts by the house and or toilets. The recall was started and I was told to call back Loyalty Home and reschedule. I called them and spoke to very angry supervisor that attempted to intimidate me with an angry tone and plumbing terms I didn't really know. He stated that he was a plumber for 14 years and if says it's a lateral line clog it has to be lateral line clog and using the main line house cleanouts would be preventive and they don't do preventive. And he or AHS canceled the recall without coming out.

So I called a real plumbing company, they came out and spent 20 minutes diagnosing the problem. The guy from AHS spent about 3 minutes and left. The real plumber said I had a clog in the main line. He could easily snake it thru the ground level main line clean out next to the house. I asked him about the lateral line clog the other plumber said. He seemed puzzled, looked at the roof and said, "You mean the vent." He stated, "Well it is possible to snake the line thru the vent, there was no reason to when there were clean outs available". He also thought it was strange for any plumber to want to get on the roof and snake a vent when cleanouts were available and a far better choice. According to Loyalty Home Services online reviews they have made up excuses to get out of work before.

I called AHS back again. Was on hold for 40 minutes before someone picked up. I was then transferred to a supervisor. I was on hold only 10 minutes this time. The supervisor said I could pay another $100 for a second AHS plumber to come out and give a 2nd opinion. If the 2nd plumber agreed with the 1st, I would pay $200 for nothing. If the 2nd plumber disagreed it was free. The real plumber would have charged me $208 to fix it in the first place. I decided to gamble and asked for the 2nd opinion. The next day I had a window from 11am to 5pm. At 4pm I called to see when they would be there. I was told that AHS had canceled the appointment. The plumbing company said they were supposed to let me know. No one informed me, so, I had been waiting all day for no one to show up, thanks AHS.

So I called AHS, was on hold for 55 minutes until I could speak to someone. I asked who canceled the appointment. They said someone in the Authorization department that is a high-level supervisor. Again I asked why and they told me roof cleanouts were not allowed. I asked again about using the ground level cleanouts. I was told that I didn't have them. I walked over. I touched one of them and told her that I had my hand on one right then. She told me that she knew it didn't make any sense but since their tech said I didn't have any, then I must not have any. I asked her if I could send a picture of them to her via a email. She said she didn't have email at work.

It took several minutes of pleading before she gave me an email address for the authorization department that I could send pictures of my cleanouts to. Update, I sent them a couple of days ago and still haven't heard back from them. I called today and was transfer from one CS rep to another, then to the authorization dept. I asked if I could record the conversation, she said no. I asked if they had got my pictures. They had no idea if they had received them or not. They also told me that I didn't have ground level cleanouts, I assured her that I did and asked if I could resend the pictures to her so I would know that someone got them.

She also doesn't have a work email address where she can receive pictures. I also found out that my claim had been closed. She did forward our conversation to the denial dept. and told them that I had emailed pictures. I was also told that they take a few days to respond and am waiting to hear back with a house with no plumbing drainage. I also asked about the process for arbitration. AHS has a clause that doesn't allow you to sue them, I wonder why they are so concerned about that. You have to go to arbitration. I asked her about the process and she repeated the phone number from memory. Not a good sign.

So at this point, I should have never called AHS and paid their $100 service fee when I could have hired a real plumber for $208 and would be able to flush my toilet. I have had AHS for a couple of years, only called them a few times. So far 2 out 3 calls have gone bad. AHS has good coverage on paper but their contractors will find or make up a reason to get out of doing any real work. If you get assigned a contractor look up their reviews online first. Don't let them assign a sub-par contractor to you and because they will make this process a nightmare. AHS doesn't seem to have any process to correct their contractor's mistakes.

They keep sending service people that never actually fix anything and that write up false reports so that they do not have to cover your damaged appliance. They sent the service tech back today and she left without doing anything at all. She also lied to my husband and said she had already cleaned the drain in the fridge yet her notes say that she needed to come back to clean the drain and the condenser. She did neither.

I’ve only had my contract with American Home Shield about four years and I've been really happy. In those four years, they've replaced the refrigerator upstairs, my dishwasher and the stove downstairs. They've also rebuilt the dryer in that they replaced a lot of parts in it. It's been well worth it for me. I usually make claims over the phone and it's not difficult at all. The contractor for the stove was excellent. They checked the stove and agreed with my diagnosis that it was the thermostat in the oven part. They found out that the part wasn't being made anymore so AHS replaced the stove with a brand new one. It took three weeks because they freighted the oven out and then it was another week for a service person to get out here and hook everything up for me. The new stove has been working fantastic.

The only thing I don’t understand with American Home Shield is why they did not cover an upright freezer. The only answer I’ve gotten has been that it's so cheap anyway. But when you look at it, they’re not cheap. It's still $300 or $400 which I just don’t have lying around. I’ve been surprised that it is not covered, and I pay for the deluxe package every year ‘cause that’s how pleased I’ve been with AHS. Still, I recommend them to anybody I talk to.

My dishwasher wasn’t working. It wasn’t turning on at all. The lights would go on and then it would shut off. The contractor that they sent out was absolutely fantastic. I felt very comfortable with him. He was really respectful of the house and he was really getting to the bottom of the issue. He was thinking two steps ahead because it wasn’t necessarily clear what the problem was but what he did completely fixed the problem. It turned out to be the circuit board and they ended up replacing it. They had to order the part and he had it in a week. He was a really good guy. I would have him out any time. He was on time and I was surprised at how quickly the part came in and he got back out to put it in.

I just had one boo-boo where it's a new home to me so I thought my ceiling fan light wasn’t working and it turned out that the switch was just in a very weird place. So, I ended up pulling 75 bucks to have the guy turn the switch for me. I'm a little concerned how much I'm gonna pay next year. Hopefully, I won't have any other appliance issues. It's already pricey enough and I get a little bit worried that every time I make a call that they're gonna up my price next time. So far, for what I paid, I could have paid out-of-pocket and probably come up less than what I paid for the insurance. Especially when I pay $75 each time and then I pay almost $600 a year for the insurance, it makes me think twice about buying it again. And, my appliances are new so I thought of waiting and doing it again in five years. Nevertheless, I was glad I had it with the dishwasher, but again, I probably would have paid less to just do it.

They might be able to make more money if there’d be one price for appliances that are five years old or less and then another price for five to ten years. It would be worth for appliances that are 15-20 years old and I pay 600 bucks to cover it. Overall, the price is the only thing that’s a negative for me. Otherwise, the response and the service are really good.

He ascertained what the issue was within 30 minutes then he was able to get out of there. And he ordered the parts, then the parts came in two weeks later. It would’ve been nice to have some ice earlier because at that time, I had a 10-month old kid and she was teething. But they got it fixed. After the part came in, the tech came again, got everything set up, and finished within another half an hour and 45 minutes.

Also, I was able to get myself a different ice machine that I would not have been able to convince my wife to let me get without the problem we had. So now, I have a machine that makes hospital ice, so things worked out in my favor. Since the repair, the ice maker has been frozen at the right stage of the game. I tried to submit the claim to American Home Shield over the phone, but they didn’t give a chance to add one more piece of equipment through the automated system, so I canceled it. I went online, filed the claim there, and I was contacted by phone. From then on, I contacted them by phone and everything seemed to be okay. At first, Prolite Appliance Service & Repair came out and the tech who arrived was positive and friendly. He did his job and didn't sit around and doddle. But then, my appliances were very old and they couldn't repair them. He said he would have to take information first, send that info to AHS and then they would contact us. What I have is a '60s home and it was difficult to find the appliances that would fit within the area. That took them a while.

We were contacted by phone and they recommended certain things. The existing oven was self-cleaning, but the oven that they recommended was not a self-cleaning one, so I called back and they quickly added on the self-clean one. It just took a little while to get the appliances in because they were from two different areas and one of them took longer than the other. Eventually, they replaced the broken appliances and that was done well. I’ve bought homes before, but it was the first time I've used the warranty, and I was pleased. I got things done in a timely manner and I was surprised at how nice everything was.

They took their time to see what was wrong and they fixed it in a timely manner. Plus they were really clean. They had to come out to see what was wrong, and then they ordered a part. It took two visits and a little over a week ‘cause they had to wait for the part to come in. They even put in an extra part that wasn’t requested so that the issue wouldn’t come back.

It felt like before I could click send, I had a phone call from Greenway to schedule an appointment. The technician came and inspected my ice maker that wasn’t working. And then, he ordered a part. A week later, he came back with the part and replaced it. I’m very pleased with the service with the appliance.

Our garage door opener wasn’t working, and so we called American Home Shield. Reliable Garage Door came out in less than a week and the person said that the garage door opener itself was fine, but a part was bad and it had to be replaced. He then put an order in. Apparently, our garage door opener is very unusual. He thought it was one of the best he’d ever seen, but it was just one that wasn’t commonly used. So, he had to find parts somewhere else and get on the phone with that company’s technical team to walk through it.

The person who did the work lived in Dayton, Ohio which is two and a half hours from where we live. When he was not able to finish the job, he even stayed in the hotel on his own that night, so he could come over in the morning and finish it. He was trying to be very courteous, and that was very impressive. He went well over and above for a contractor. The garage door opener is working perfectly now. We’ve had American Home Shield for as long as we have the house, and the customer service and the putting in a ticket request are all good, and it works the way you like it to work. I have a lot of younger millennial folks who are with me at work, and a couple of them are buying houses. I have personally recommended them getting American Home Shield because of the experience we have.

This is my 3rd month with AHS and I am already so unhappy with my decision to go with this home warranty company. Had an issue with my central A/C about a month ago and I am STILL dealing with the issue. It’s 90 degrees in Miami, FL and I have been without A/C for the last month now. The company that AHS hired to come out and fix the issue is completely incompetent and have had to come out 3 different times to install a new compressor, then uninstall it because it wasn’t working (I believe it was a used one). Then install a different one, and now possibly uninstall that one because it’s not working either.

I had to pay $300 out of pocket for Freon, $100 for a service fee, and now I’m wondering whether it was even worth it to go through AHS. When I called them and asked if there was a way I could pay to fix the issue and then get reimbursed, they told me it didn’t work like that. So the alternative is to suffer through no A/C for 3 weeks? What’s the point of a home warranty company if they aren’t going to actually fix your problem? So unhappy.

Back on Sept. 7, 2018, I placed a service call through AHS to have my washing machine serviced. The technician arrived two days later to see what the issue was with the machine which took all of, let’s say, 5 minutes. A few days of not hearing from the contracting company because parts had to be ordered that the technician didn’t have, I called them to see what the status of my call was. Found out that the part that was supposed to be ordered was not in stock. Thanks for letting me know with a phone call. SMH.

So, after calling and complaining to AHS about the part not being in stock, yes, I had to call them, they sent out a different contracting company. This technician arrived on Oct. 13, yes over a month since I originally placed the service call. The technician worked on the machine for a good hour or so and he couldn’t fix the issue even with the parts that were ordered and delivered to my house about a week before he arrived. When he couldn’t fix the problem, he proceeded to tell me that more parts will have to be ordered which will take anywhere from 5-7 business days. Now we’re looking at me possibly being without a washing machine for a month and a half.

Now, I’m back on the phone with AHS to voice my disappointment with the time, service and inconvenience I’ve had dealing with this whole situation. I ask the AHS rep what will happen if the technician receive new parts, again, and don’t fix my machine. Here’s the kicker, I was told that AHS will send out “another” contracting company to try and fix it. At this point I’m ready to tell AHS how I really feel about their service, but I held my tongue. My understanding, according to my contract, the $51.00 a month that I pay, and the fact that I’ve been with them for over 10 years, was that If the technician couldn’t fix the appliance AHS would replace it. At this point, I don’t see “that” happening because they’d rather keep sending contractor after contractor to try and fix the problem and to hell with you being inconvenienced in the long run.

I am very, very upset and disappointed in the way AHS has handled this situation and could not correct it. I pay them every month for a service, that I thought, should be rendered. That’s the problem with all of these insurance companies, because AHS is one too, they take your money but when it’s time for them to show up and put up, they let you down. Incredible.

They confirm a window of time in their system but then schedule a different window of time with the contractor, creating massive confusion. They seem to have trouble with basic tasks, such as scheduling and confirming times. The quality of professionals they recommend is "C" grade at best. The plumber and oven repair professionals they sent to our house were borderline incompetent and provided wrong and erroneous information. Not worth the price!

After numerous service calls and customer service calls with very long waits, phone drops and no callbacks and taking time off of work for the technician I had to get the BBB involved. One vendor that sent out came over 4 times to replace parts one time which was 2 mins and he left. They switched vendors and that company came out yesterday and stated "it's all fixed. Give it 24 hours". The refrigerator is still warm, I only put a bottle of water because I was not going to throw away food anymore.

This was dispatched from American Home Shield home warranty (AHS). The technician arrived at the property without proper tool to perform the job and blame me not understanding the type of pipe was leaking and I should have told him the situation and what he should bring to fix the leak. I am not a professional plumber that's why you were called to the job. Duh. The technician was rushing to leave without doing anything because he didn't bring tools/parts. I asked when will he be coming back to fix the leak and he said his company will call me back to reschedule.

The technician stayed in his van for about 20 mins in front of my house afterwards, thought that was odd but realized that he was making false reports trying to avoid the job and still keep my service fee. Few mins later I received call from AHS saying the technician reported back that the leak was caused by rodent and was not covered by home warranty policy, I need to pay that company $75 to come out without tools and parts, did nothing, and $275 more to do the actual job fixing the leak, this is unacceptable. Actually I had another local plumber came out for an estimate and they said it was a cut caused by previous plumber who put in the pipe accidentally cut the pipe a little bit and after time goes by, the cut expanded and eventually break thru and caused the leak.

AHS called and told me that based on this technician's report, the coverage for this claim is denied and I am still required to pay the $75 for the company to come out to investigate and exterminate (the guy was only here for less than 5 mins, wall was already opened and leak source was exposed for access, he saw the pipe and blame me not telling him the pipe type and said he doesn't have the tool to fix PEX pipes with him anyways). Both the contractor and AHS was unprofessional and unethical to even file false report behind customer's back just to deny coverage and still charge fee for unprofessional contractor to arrive without property tool and parts to perform the job. Horrible experience!!!

Once I have the same guy come out twice, I want the same person to keep coming out but there’s no place to request that. I recently had another issue and they wanted somebody else to come out.

The contractor was fantastic which is why I wanted to stick with him. He was very clear about the reason he was coming. The first time, he explained everything step-by-step. And then on the second one, I wasn’t able to be here until I texted him and he texted me what was going on. He had to order a piece and then he came back out when I was here and fixed it. That was completed and that was fine. He was very good too. In fact, I have no complaints about any of the technicians that are coming out now. But in order to wash dishes, the tray has to be in place. I called American Home Shield around 8 o’clock but I got a recording that they’re in Central timeslot. I normally submit claims over the phone and when you have to stay on the phone for 30 minutes, waiting for someone to pick up gets to be a little annoying. But once you get the opportunity to talk with the representatives, they're very professional.

Other than that, the only concern that I have is that they give us such a short period of time for sending the money back to American Home Shield. I know that the technicians no longer receive the $75 that is required. But with regards to my father, three technicians have already been out there for his Frigidaire. American Home Shield only requires to pay $75 once but the job has not been completed. Before they require that $75, They should wait until the job is completed to see if there are any problems that would occur or if everything is gonna be intact. Otherwise, when you look, you have to call back and put another claim in. Still, I would recommend them.

They found the problem right after that and took care of it. The contractor was very professional and I didn’t have any conflict with him at all. He did his job, he knew his job and he got the work done satisfactorily. I haven’t had any more issues since the repair.

When I had a problem with my stove, I had AHS dispatch a vendor out. The vendor came out and was very professional. He called me within 24 hours. They could not because of the age of the stove. They turned that information back to American Home Shield. American Home Shield determined that I needed a new stove. They gave me an excellent allowance to get a new stove. I've gotten the stove on the way and my refund in process right now. The only problem that I really had with them was I went a whole week of being on the phone, waiting on the phone to get someone on the phone twice during that week. Then in the midst of me telling them the problem and what I was going through, they hung up on me. So, I had to go back and wait.

I got my cell phone in my back pocket, waiting on hold and I waited as long as two and a half hours and never got anyone on the line. It just so happened, it was Friday, I called again and I got a wonderful lady on the phone and she was able to process what I needed. But it should not have taken an entire week to get this done. Now, I’m in the awkward position of getting this stove installed on closing, and it was supposed to be installed prior to closing. So, now, we’re having to amend. After this experience, I will never use American Home Shield and I will not recommend them to anyone if they had to stay on the line all that time.

My most recent claim was at Charles Court where American Home Shield had someone come out and fix a bunch of stuff. The contractor had to replace the hot water heater and fix some valves and hoses that were leaking at that property. We ended up selling our property, and a lot of the stuff that I had to have fixed was off of the home inspection so that worked out.

However, AHS could definitely improve their communication with the vendors ‘cause they’re not given the diagnosis immediately. When a vendor is standing in your home and say, “We need to replace this,” it’s like, “Okay, when can you come back?” That process is not ideal. I’m still waiting on them to send somebody back to change the valves, and I’m dreading the phone call ‘cause I gotta call and stay on the phone. The only other issue I had was because the plumber that came was not a good plumber. But once I went to the channels, I finally got somebody at All Hours Plumbing. I've already recommended AHS to my client.

We had our old dishwasher fixed through American Home Shield. The claim submission process was very easy and I had a good interaction with the representative on the phone. The contractor who came was excellent. He was on time and did what he said he was gonna do. He was also very personable and nice. The soap dispenser part had to be ordered and it took about a week before it came. I had to do dishes by hand until the dishwasher was repaired. Now, it is working well. American Home Shield is a good deal but expect to pay a fee. I get a discount but it's $75 every time I call them to do something. The things that were supposed to be fixed and covered by the homeowner before we moved in didn't get fixed and a few things have gone wrong since I bought the house. It's frustrating but I'm glad I have American Home Shield.

They responded quickly and sent a contractor to check the breaker and replace some of the circuits. He responded late but I had a good interaction with him. He was really nice. In the beginning, he was kind of unorganized but once we got into it, he did a thorough check on my breakers. Since the repair, the outlet has been working fine.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield over the phone is easy. Although prior to my most recent claim, which was a dryer issue, they couldn't send the service people that I wanted to bring in. In addition, I had a language barrier issue with the reps who are outside the US. It's so hard to deal with them. It doesn't help that they aren't aware of my area so they keep sending people from 67 miles away and they don't come. I had an issue with a San Francisco company. Since they weren't calling me back, I contacted them and they told me they will reach out. But I said they couldn't come because I'm in San Jose and even though it’s 55 miles driving here in California, it will take them two hours one way. I would need the local guys instead.

With my dryer claim though, the tech came out for repair the very next day after I filed the claim. And he was very knowledgeable so I had no issue. Since the repair, the dryer is working well. Other than that, while AHS has been doing a good job, they need to improve their billing system. It's bad because either we pay to the people who come to service, or they stop doing it. They also say that they will charge my credit card and sometimes it doesn’t get charged. And then we receive an email from them that says my bill hasn't been paid and that they will disconnect my service. Since they don't send the bill, how am I supposed to know? I told them this a couple of times, but I don’t see any improvement. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield. In fact, I have referred them to 42 of my friends and they all have it.

I recently made a claim online for my HVAC, though I prefer to do it with a person. I had to call during the weekend, and because I'm a teacher, the time that people can come is very limited for me now that I'm back in school. I'd like to be able to verbally say that to back the email from the beginning. The online team got back with me right away as to who would be servicing me, but then I never talked to a person. The next email I got was the time and day and it was a four-hour window, and I can't do that as a teacher. For me, it wasn't convenient at all.

I tried to cancel it and I didn't know who to call because I didn't talk to a person. I was very frustrated because I had the number to the contractor, and I called them and said, "I cannot do that appointment, please cancel it. Can we schedule it at a different time as long as it fits for us?" The person who took my call was like, "We don't have anything else, but I'll have my husband call you and maybe he can troubleshoot what's going on." She didn't end up cancelling it and when it was originally scheduled, the tech called me. I also got an email from American Home Shield that said the tech was on the way, and I was already at work. And so, I called the people back and tried to get a hold of them to say, "Don't come."

Once we finally worked everything out, the person who came was excellent. I told AHS not to charge me when they sent that person since that person already came out. They were able to do that and it was all fine. I've had them on two previous homes and that's why I automatically wanted them for this home. American Home Shield is a good company, and this is my first negative situation which was more of a miscommunication for scheduling.

My garage door at a property in Washington, D.C. acted up and I had a guy come out. The parts that they needed had to be ordered and it took them a while to come in. The only issue I had was that I didn't realize the entire garage door wasn't covered. It was just the garage door opener itself. So, when the gentleman came in, he said it needed to be adjusted, so that was another $125. Then when they came out again to install the part, he said the spring needed to be replaced and adjusted, so that was another $300. The door was never used after the time he adjusted it for $125, and when he came back, he said I had to replace all that stuff.

The problem was that I'm in the Navy and I'm stationed in California right now. I have renters in there, so I needed to get the door fixed. My frustration was paying for something and then having the contractor come back out a month later and tell me I got to pay for all those stuff. It was kinda up against the wall. Nonetheless, the tech was professional, polite and he explained everything. American Home Shield was really quick to respond and having them is worthwhile for sure.

My hot water heater was not turning on automatically. I could go into the garage and move the temp dial and it would come on. Called AHS and used the automated system. Got an email that CNJ services would contact me within 24 hours. on the third day not hearing from CNJ services, called AHS, was on hold for 20 minutes and then finally got someone. they put me on hold and called CNJ services and then finally CNJ services called me shortly after. They made it out to my house over a week after my initial call to AHS. The guy was here maybe ten minutes and said he had to get in touch with AHS to see if they would fix or replace.

The next day I got calls that they were replacing the water heater but I was going to be charged out of my pocket $600+ for modifications. This didn't sound right to me so I had a local handyman come out and take a second look. The handyman hooked the hose up to the hot water heater and started draining to check for any sediment. While it was draining out through the hose he turned up the temp and after a few seconds it kicked on. the next morning I took a shower and it came on automatically again. I obviously did not need a new water heater.

Yesterday I called AHS to tell them about what all had happened and how I did not need a new water heater as the handyman fixed the problem in a few minutes. I was on hold for about 20 minutes again before I got someone in billing. The lady in billing put me on hold to call CNJ services. After being on hold for that she then said she had to transfer me to customer service and was on hold again for 15 minutes. Got another person on the phone and basically got told that my request for a refund was in the notes in the system but that someone higher up had to review it. I asked how long that would take. she said 7-14 days and then to call again if I did not hear anything. we will see what happens. I am not holding my breath.

AHS does not cover opening drains from the roof. They never offered me a second opinion. They went by Top Notch Plumbing's diagnosis and closed my ticket. I called AHS for four weeks after Top Notch came to the house. I had to get my own plumber to open the drain and they did not have to go on the roof. They snaked the same line that Top Notch tried to snake. AHS will not reimburse me for this cost. I think it is unfair that AHS did not offer a second opinion and blamed me for not asking for one when their rep was adamant that they had to go with Top Notch's opinion. The kitchen sink couldn't be used for a whole month. I also called Top Notch Plumbing and they don't answer the phone or return phone messages.

"TEXT: We have had a contract with you for several years and have been paying monthly by check. In early December, we were told we were paid through Dec. 28, 2017. At that time, we sent a check in payment of the month of January, 2018. We are now being told that we owe over $200 in premiums. In looking at the account information, we are unable to determine what this amount is for. In early December, we spoke with someone at AHS about payment and were told that we could not continue to make monthly payments by check. We were told that we would have to pay the full yearly amount by credit card. This is not what we wanted to do."

"Additionally, when we had to make a service request in December, we were told that our coverage had expired. When we called the phone number, we were put on hold for over 45 minutes. We finally reached someone in the accounting office who was able to verify that we were not expired and the service request was handled by this person. Given the difficulty that we have had and are having with the communication and the bookkeeping of your company, we are no longer going to do business with American Home Shield."

LETTER TO PRESIDENT: We sent a letter to the president of the company in January 2018 explaining our decision to cancel and to make sure that he was aware of the problems we had encountered (just in case he wanted to correct them). We received a form letter from his office (not even from him) saying he was sorry we were not renewing -- end of conversation!

On August 6, 2018, a service request was placed for our 35-yr-old KitchenAid dishwasher. The service technician said the machine needed 2 parts - both of which he believed would not be available. He advised them that they would most likely be offered a replacement dishwasher. On August 16, 2018, AHS sent an email detailing the replacement options. On August 20, 2018, a reply email was sent to AHS accepting the replacement option of the Bosch dishwasher model offered in the earlier email. On August 23, 2018, AHS sent an email explaining that the dishwasher had been ordered and should be delivered in 10-14 business days. NO FURTHER CONTACT WAS INITIATED BY AHS. No one called or emailed to find out if the unit had been delivered or installed.

After a month of waiting, I called AHS to discuss the delay. After waiting for over 25 minutes to speak with someone, they told me that the appliance would be delivered on 9/25/2018. I was also told to call the delivery company the evening before to verify the delivery. When I called about the delivery, I was told that the appliance was on back-order and would not be delivered until October 9, 2018. Again, I initiated the call, AHS DID NOT CALL TO VERIFY THAT THE DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION WAS ON SCHEDULE. When I did talk with the Appliance Support person, I was told that I could take the payout or wait for the selected dishwasher.

Finally, on October 9, 2018, the dishwasher arrived!!! It now sits in the middle of the kitchen floor waiting to be installed! I called the service technician that was supposed to do the installation many times, starting as early as September 24, 2018. The technician NEVER returned my calls. In desperation, I once again called the Appliance Support number (another 20 minute wait, even after asking for a callback)! I spoke with April, who was very nice and assigned a different service company to do the installation. I waited all afternoon and most of the next morning for the company to call. When I had heard nothing, I called the company. The person handling the scheduling said she had a technician in the area, and she would have him come between 1-5 pm. that day, Thursday, October 11, 2018. He was to call 15 minutes before arriving. Waited all afternoon for a phone call - none came!

On Friday, October 12, 2018, I called the company at 12:11 and again at 12:17 p.m. Evidently, they put their phone on voicemail during lunch, but they do not clear their messages. The mailbox was full; I could not even leave a message. Again in desperation, I called the Appliance Support number at 12:20 p.m. and left a callback request. At 12:49 p.m., I received a callback and was again put on hold to wait for someone to come on the line. I am not sure of the name of the person with whom I spoke, but she put me on hold in order to call the company herself. According to your service support person, she was told that the company had called and left a message saying that the technician could not make it that day and had to re-schedule for Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

When I finally reached the scheduler at Suretec Appliance Repair, she assured me that she in fact HAD NOT CALLED AND LEFT A MESSAGE. In fact, she said she had not learned that the installation had not been done until she got the call from AHS! My only conclusion is that your representative lied to me. The 51-day saga continues - hopefully the final chapter will be complete on Tuesday next! Needless to say, I will not be continuing my contract with AHS.

I called to request service on 08/07/18 because my AC was not working. They said they would have their preferred HVAC company contact me to make an appt within 24 hours. I asked if there was any way to escalate but they said, "No AC did not qualify as an emergency." So I finally get a call the next day and they can have a service person at my house the following day. Day 3, the guy shows up and says that yes, I do have a problem and that they have to get approval to replace the compressor... This could take up to 48 hours.

I called to escalate but again was told that it was not an emergency. Now I have been without AC in my house for 4 days and have spent $125 on the deductible to have an HVAC company that is more than 40 miles from my house. Because of how far they are and their schedule they would not be able to schedule another service call until up to 24 hours after the up to 48 hours approval time. I called again and asked if I could hire my own, local HVAC company to replace the compressor and they said they would have to send the request to another dept to approve the "cash out" and it could take up to 48 hours...

I went ahead and had my compressor replaced by my HVAC guy the same day I called him and it cost $2200. In researching the price of the compressor itself the part on average costs for a compressor for my size unit is $1700. I called them back again and they said I was approved to receive $750. What a joke. I had no choice but to take the $750. So at the end of the day I spent $2200 for the local repair (same day), $125 deductible and $450 in hotel costs to be reimbursed for $750. I would not recommend this warranty company to my worst enemy. Save yourself time, money and frustration by not using American Home Shield. I almost forgot... After I received my check for $750 I called to cancel my contract and was advised there is a $14 administrative cost to cancel. Ridiculous. Thank is all.

I haven't heard a word from anyone for 2 1/2 days later until I called AHS to find out what is going on THEN they tell me it was denied and it will cost approximately $1000 to repair.

Naturally, they have charged me the $100 deductible, for nothing in return. I can't keep pursuing issues with them at the rate of the time consumption it requires so I asked to cancel the policy then, they ask if I want a second opinion. "No, I'm done, cancel the policy because I am cutting my losses." I will never pay this kind of money for a warranty plan without first checking BBB website and picking an A+ company in the future. The second tech said that there was a loose wire that she fixed but she also could not order parts but would look up a way to fix it. Still not fixed. I have no working dryer and was told by Kina ** social media guru at AHS that the vendor said I had a mongoose living in my dryer. Completely untrue. And that there was nothing wrong with my dryer.

Tech comes back, replaces part and assured me it’s fixed. The next day I come home to find the floor flooded again and my laminate floor is now ruined.

They put in a new hot water heater the first time because that was part of the problem, and that was great. They came right away and fixed my problem. They were very professional. Also, the toilets were running and they fixed that as well. It certainly made me not having to go into the toilet running all the time, and it lowered my water bill.

They called a local contractor that called me the next day and set up an appointment. Then they came out and said that it was a loose connection and that they may have fixed the problem. But they had to come out a second time because it leaked again and ended up having to replace the water heater.

The overall turnaround time was over a week because of scheduling. But in my case, it was okay because the leak was very minor so it wasn’t an emergency. Other than that, the contractors were friendly and they did exactly what they needed to do. They explained what they were doing while they were doing it and told me what they were replacing while they were replacing it. American Home Shield is great. Some of my co-workers use a different company and we compared the cost of the initial appointment versus the cost of the overall payment. AHS is very comparable with everybody else, maybe a bit more, but that is okay. I’m happy with the service I’m getting.

I asked him if I could speak to his manager and I got disconnected. The second rep was excellent. She was right on it and was very helpful. I asked to get somebody out right away, so I called back on a Friday and the third rep told me the plumber couldn't come out until Monday. I called back to AHS and I got another operator who was also very excellent and really expedited everything for me. The person from Scott Plumbing Company who came was excellent. He came right away and he said he had a customer before me but he came a lot sooner than he told me. He communicated and he was wonderful and very professional.

AHS has been great so far and and I’m happy with them. We’ve only used them once and they did a great job. It was for our air conditioner and it was making a really awful smell. We filed a claim over the phone and everything was fine. But when the contractor showed up at the door, he didn't have an ID badge or anything showing that he works for this particular company. He could’ve been the owner, but he showed me his driver’s license. Other than that, he was very efficient and quick. He went upstairs, looked up there, and replaced a motor out back in our heat pump. It took five days to repair the AC and the smell was intermittent. But we were able to use the air conditioner in the meantime. It was very hot here but weren’t put in any kind of jeopardy.

I would recommend American Home Shield. I had a claim with them and the experience was very smooth. I was selling my house and the inspector noticed that the drainage for the dishwasher was not working. What happened was when someone replaced the garbage disposal, he forgot to take the cover off. And since I don’t use the dishwasher to wash dishes, it never got discovered. I submitted an online request to American Home Shield and about eight hours later, I received an email telling me that I was assigned a contractor and the contractor would contact me directly.

I got a call from the contractor the same day and the guy told me they have time slots available, so we scheduled it up. I took their earliest time possible which was three days. The contractor came in as expected and got it fixed. Then about less than two weeks later, I got the charge for the deductible which is $100 for my case. After that, it's closed and everything has been okay. I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

My AC wasn’t cooling. Apparently, the fan wasn’t running so the thermostat needed attention. I called American Home Shield about it and they sent out somebody to fix it. The contractor came in, did something and then it worked for a day and then it stopped again. They did something else and it's working now. The technicians were fine. At first, the person thought they had fixed it but they responded very quickly when I made the second call and told them that it's still not working. My overall experience with AHS was fine. I have moved in to a townhouse and I'm not certain about how everything is going to go. I decided to extend it for one more year so that I'll be covered if anything else goes wrong. I have already recommended AHS to someone else.

I received an email that there was an offer that I could take advantage of until the end of October to have a full furnace inspection and cleaning for $75. So I called American Home Shield and paid the $75 on the spot. Then the heating and air conditioning company that they contract with contacted me within half an hour of my signing up and paying, and they scheduled an appointment.

AHS also offered a package to rekey all the locks in the house and they sent out the contractor, Lang’s Locks. A nice guy came out and I offered him the use of my workbench or to do the work inside the house, but he said that he had it set up that he can do the work in his car. But it was hot so I felt bad for him. He was professional and extremely thorough. He showed me that every single lock worked and he wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with the work before he left. He provided excellent service and this has given me peace of mind that, even if I purchased the home from somebody else, now no one has a key to my house.

I’ve never purchased any type of warranty when I bought a home before and AHS was above what I expected. I didn’t expect them to have preventative maintenance or change lock offers and to give me offers to help with the maintenance, so I was very surprised. I thought I was only going to hear from them or need them if I had a failure. But I’d much rather pay $75 and have my furnace inspected and tuned up, rather than have my furnace dying and need help then. It's like your health. You can either be preventative and do the maintenance that you need or you can wait until you’re in your deathbed. I like the fact that they’re proactive.

I had a problem with the washing machine which was not working properly, so I called American Home Shield and they helped me. The process was very straightforward and their people were very helpful. At first, I was sent a contractor who made a review on the problem and offered a solution. I didn't agree with his understanding of the problem, so I had to call again at AHS. I was sent another contractor who inspected the problem, and they found out what the problem was which I agreed with, and then they solved it. It was a good experience for me because American Home Shield understands their customers. If you have any disagreement with any contractor, they're able to send another contractor.

This is our third year being subscribed to American Home Shield. During our first year, it was for a rental house and our landlord was subscribed to them. Because we were happy with the support, we decided to continue it. This year, I wanted to extend for one more year and I took the quotes from the website, and the one that the website gave me was lower than the one that their people were giving to me. I talked to their people and they didn't change, so I was upset about it. They explained that newcomers can get a discount, but if there's a loyal customer, they deserve the lowest price possible. Also, I've been receiving some text messages and emails, notifying me about some maintenance that do not belong to our current address, but the previous address. Other than that, I've recommended AHS to several people.

The actual representative I’ve spoken to has been very professional and has helped me in trying to work my way through whatever the problem was. Sometimes though, it's hard to get a real person when you call American Home Shield and that's my biggest thing because some of the menu items don’t apply. But, they've been prompt. When I called one day, before I could hang up good, they told me they had an opening for the contractors to come out the next day.

The contractors came out on the 18th and they listened to me trying to explain what I wanted them to look at. They didn't look at me like I was crazy, so I appreciate that. They came back on the 26th within that window that they told me they would be here to do the work and then they got the job done. Now, it’s so nice and cool in here. I can’t even hear the system, so I’m really pleased. The system was old and it’s hard to keep replacing things, so it was the best thing that I did as far as getting a replacement.

They decided the unit wasn’t able to be fixed. So I ended up having to get a new one. The washer was out for at least a good two weeks and I had to go to my mother-in-law to do the laundry. I called in periodically to check status and ask questions, and I ended up doing cash in lieu because I ended up getting a washer-dryer pair. The process was not difficult at all. I went and bought the unit then I faxed in the invoice. They had also mailed out the check on the day that I called and I got the check the next day. So it worked very well. We also had another claim when the swimming pool made a noise in the pipes all the way to the front of the house when we filled it. We called the contractor out for that, but they said there was nothing that could be done about it. We still have that problem and I don't understand why it can't be remedied.

I have also been concerned because I was told at first that we didn't owe anything, then we subsequently kept getting email and phone messages that we owed money. We were under the impression that the fee was automatically charged to our account, but for some reason it wasn't. I'm a little confused between the people that came out to Granada Hills and those that came out to our place in Rancho Mirage because the issues in those two places were closely related, although they were independent issues. It took me several times to get that matter straightened out. It was finally taken care of, but it was frustrating and I was unhappy about that.

Other than that, our interaction with the claims reps and their professionalism were fine when we submitted our claims with American Home Shield on the phone. Also, everything has been fine in our dealings with the contractors sent out by AHS. They came out the same day that we called or the next day. That is definitely higher because there are competing warranty services elsewhere where the service calls can cost less. If I call somebody in my market locally, they will cost me $55 or $60. Still, having a home warranty through American Home Shield is very valuable. Their service is very good and so is their quality. I've had a good experience with them overall.

They have verbally and in writing told my client that if he doesn't get the work done, American Home Shield will not cover potential future leaks. My client ended up having the work done through another roofer. AHS is required to cover the roof if a roof leak occurs! However, by allowing Roof RX to come out & do the inspections it's opening a door to items they might call pre existing. I am a new homeowner. It is the first time I'm using AHS (first year contract < 2 months old). My A/C was not working. It is a Trane high-efficiency unit. I paid the service fee of $100. The first contractor assigned did not even touch the system or thermostat stating it is a Trane system and a Trane specialist has to attend to it. Before the 2nd contractor was sent, I made very clear that I have a Trane high-efficiency system and not all contractors can fix it. So to send someone who can actually diagnose the unit. I was sent another contractor, who again stated the same as first contractor, and again did not touch a single thermostat/equipment.

The above process took more than a week to begin with. Every time, I had to initiate the follow up conversation. So, after the 2nd contractor visited, I was chatting with an agent, and the agent requested me to go for outside authorization as they don't have any contractor who is Trane specialized in their network in my area. Left with no other option, I did call the external contractor and got it fixed. Since it was a damage due to a pest short circuiting my condenser, I was not reimbursed the repair cost ($200) stating it was not covered in contract. I called AHS customer service and authorization department, to refund my service fee which they charged for someone to come in and not do anything the first two attempts (not even attempt to troubleshoot/ touch the unit), or pay me the service fee of $97.00 (not repair cost) for the external authorization.

I was denied the request by representative and my call was cut 2 times after 15 minutes wait time, when I requested to talk to supervisor. Please note: 1. not having a contractor who is certified to repair high-efficiency systems is not in my hands. The contract should clearly then state that AHS does not have contractors for high-efficiency systems. 2. I did not request for outside authorization. I was asked by AHS to find an external contractor as AHS did not have a contractor to even diagnose the fault. Then, why should I not be refunded the service fee (either for the job not attempted to diagnose or for the external authorization contractor).

I'm thinking of cancelling the contract with AHS as most of the systems in my home are high-efficiency systems. Very disappointed. I m at a loss of money by signing up for "complete shield plan" and in addition to the service fee! To add to that, the contractor assigned first did not even respond within 24 hours for an appointment time (this is in spite of me contacting the assigned contractor and leaving several voice messages). Will not recommend AHS for anyone who has high-efficiency systems. Customer service is very poor as well.

I had a water heater that was leaking so I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. When the tech first came in, he told us it would cost $365 on our part claiming that the water heater needed to be raised and he was gonna have to pay $200 more for a permit because he didn't have the license to work in this county that he thought we were in. Also, he said he needed to install a ball valve to bring everything up to code.

I tried to explain to him that we live in Oklahoma City city limits, which he was licensed for. And I would know that for a fact because I’m a retired Home City Police Officer, I would know full well where city limits are. Also, I asked if I could go to Lowe's and pick up the parts so that I could get my tax exempt and my discount. He agreed to do that and wrote a list of the parts that he thought he needed which included a pan for the hot water heater. It was electric and Oklahoma City Code says that an electric hot water heater can settle on the floor and that it has to be at 18" above at ignition source. The tech wanted four cinder blocks to better raise the heater. So, I picked those up and the water pan.

Then, he told us that we were gonna have to tear up a part of the shelves of our water heater's inner pantry to be able to get the water heater in there. I was not following exactly why he even thought that. He replaced the water heater with the same thing and we did not end up having to take our permanent shelving down. He wanted $225 for the work that he had accomplished but he didn’t accomplish anything. He didn’t end up using the cement blocks and in fact, wanted me to purchase the flexible copper lines to hook up the water heater which he said AHS was paying for and so he brought his own. After we got the water back on, the ball valve was leaking and he tightened it a little bit. Then, he was able to get it to quit leaking but he didn’t offer to make sure the leak would stop.

After all my experience with him, I felt uncomfortable that he was gouging AHS along with trying to charge us for service and trip charges. I stopped the check that I had written him. We’ve had comments in conversations since, but he even made comments on his phone. He said he had to be compensated for his time and I texted him back and telling him that I felt that his time was compensated by his contract with AHS. I hope there was something on AHS's site to be able to get back and express some disappointment on the contractors. I wanted to convey at least our billings about how he performed and his professionalism. But this was not a bad experience with AHS, this was a bad experience with the provider. We’ve used AHS before in three or four different occasions and I’ve been completely satisfied and very happy with the professionals they’ve sent out. I would highly recommend AHS.

We would hit our year with AHS on the 20th and we had another experience with a water leak so we were able to use them twice, at the very end of our contract. I like the contractors that AHS have partnered up with. We had a very good experience and it’s working for us.

The contractor that was sent by American Home Shield for the AC came out and did nothing. Recently, I filed a claim for the refrigerator and they defrosted the freezer and did something with the heating coil. The contractors have been out three times and my ice maker still doesn’t work. They had to order the part and they put it in. It still wasn't working so they had to come back out. It’s now making ice but the dispenser isn’t working so, the ice keeps piling up and we have to keep dumping so that was irritating. Still, American Home Shield is a great concept. I like that everything is covered under them and it's easy to just go online and I pay there too. Plus, they call me in 24 hours.

My dryer went out and the process of submitting a claim over the phone to American Home Shield was very easy. The representative who assisted me was very nice. The contractor was a good guy too and he spent less than 20 minutes for the repair. He also explained what the issue was. After that, I was able to start washing my clothes again and I haven't had a problem with the dryer since the repair. It was a painless experience. I would also recommend American Home Shield.

I have American Home Shield in my other home. The contractors they send out always come in a timely manner and fix everything. They never have an issue when I call them and ask them what's going on since I'm never home. I usually submit the claims over the phone and I get an automated number of who I need to come out. The process is easy and I love it. The contractors usually come out the next day. So far, everything is fixed. My AC has always improved when they leave. I just I need a new AC altogether, a bigger one. I don't think it's big enough for that house.

I also need to call them about the dishwasher that stopped working. If I didn't have AHS, I'd have to pay somebody to come out and the cost is probably more than $175. And when the guy comes out to check my dishwasher and says, "We can't repair this," AHS is gonna send me a comparable check. It's not like they're gonna buy me a brand new one, but they're still gonna send me something comparable. I can deal with that. I can add extra $100 or so and I'm done. All I have to do is call Home Shield and if I don't like what happens, I'm sure they're gonna fix it. I'd recommend American Home Shield. It's weird to own a home and not have a home warranty.

My experience with American Home Shield was very good. I called them to have someone come out and check my air conditioner that was making some awful racket. The rep was nice and polite. It was hot but the contractor came out the next day. He came out promptly and was very professional. He fixed the AC and it's working fine now, and I’m hoping I get to use it too much.

The heating element wasn’t working correctly on the inside of my dryer. The part where you pull the lint out, something was in there. I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the internet and then I called in to make sure they received it. I've had some follow-ups on a couple of claims prior to this one and the technician that I had at my other place was rude, the worst. I almost dropped my American Home Shield with them. But the last technician was very kind, explained everything and he did an excellent job. He ordered the parts for the dryer and then he came back out and fixed it. I'd recommend American Home Shield to all my family and friends.

I went through American Home Shield online and requested service for my water heater. Then Water Control Plumbing came out and checked the unit. The guy who came out the first time said the problem was a valve and he fixed it, but it didn’t last. I have tenants in that property and they said water was everywhere. So I called the contractor back and that was when they told me I needed a new water heater. I had great interactions with the contractor and everything has been great since the repair.

I have used American Home Shield three times over a year and it has been excellent service. I had an issue though with one of their plumbing companies and it was for that same water heater. The contractor came out about four times and every time he came, he said he was gonna come back in two days. So I had to make a complaint about that and American Home Shield had no problem replacing him with another one from another company. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

One time, we had a leak coming from our ceiling. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and received a quick response from them. The technicians AHS sent out to my place provided good service. One of their guys said that it was a faucet that was leaking and he fixed it. Since then it hasn't leaked again. AHS techs knew what they were doing. They were polite, and they walked through everything that was going on.

My experience with American Home Shield has been great. We had the AHS policy with our house purchase in April. When we submit a claim to them, their technicians were very fast in responding. So far, we've had them over twice. Once, they came and repaired our upstairs air conditioning unit, which is working fine now. And then, last time they came, we had a refrigerator in the garage that was 18 years old and the repairman came and said, "There's just no way we could fix it." Within a week, we had a brand new refrigerator which is absolutely great. It's nicer than the one that was there. The people who came out were very nice, very polite and very professional. We intend to keep our AHS policy into the future.

I recently filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my microwave. Their site said said that their servicer will set an appointment to come and repair it. When he, I had a comfortable conversation with him. He did a good job and fixed the issue. The repairs for the appliances by AHS contractors have been good. However, they have had hiccups with the AC. My air conditioning needed three or four visits. One day, they did not do a good job and left the parts and I had to call them back again. I'm not happy with that. Still, now my air conditioning is working as expected. Also, with AHS, before we proceed with the work with the contractor, we really know what is covered and how much we'll be able to pay.

American Home Shield has done a very good job so far and we've had excellent experience with them. One of our air conditioning units stopped working and had a problem. I filed the claim online and the process was very simple. American Home Shield set up an appointment for the vendor to come out. The contractor was excellent and they were very professional. They came out, did their work, and did a full examination to make sure everything was working right. They took care of everything in the house and also checked the air flow. I thought we were gonna have to replace the whole air conditioning unit but we came to find out the only thing that was wrong was a bad motor. They changed out the motor and it didn't cost anything except my deductible.

Recently, I had a plumbing issue. When I flushed the toilet, the water drained out of the back and did not go back in. I called American Home Shield online to submit a claim and they sent the contractor, Reliable Plumbing. The tech fixed the problem right away. He was very good and I was very happy with his service. Since I’ve been making claims with AHS, the contractors that they've sent out have been wonderful and professional, and I liked their service very much. I had an electrician and a plumber, and they both did the job. They were able to make the repairs on the day that they came out and they did excellent work.

But American Home Shield is not informing the people who have their policy what their coverage is. When I first bought our house, it was never explained to me that I had a warranty with AHS. I should have been given some information in the escrow office on what my coverage was, but there was nothing and that was not correct. There were some problems in the house and I just fixed these on my own. I bought a new dishwasher because the previous one didn’t work and everything came out greasy. I didn’t realize that my AHS warranty could have covered that issue and something else. Later on, I spoke with my realtor about these issues and he spoke with an AHS rep who came to his office all the time. But she said that she couldn’t do anything about these issues since AHS could not backdate them. The new dishwasher I got was $1,000. It's expensive now and it's something that I could have had some help with.

Hi, Florence. I regret to hear that you were not informed of the home warranty that was purchased when you bought your home. Normally the realtor informs you of all of that information. A Social Media team member will contact you to further discuss your concerns.

We own a $600,000 home and we didn’t have a warranty until this past year. We thought to give American Home Shield a try see if it’s worth it, and it’s paid off more than we could possibly say. We’ve had to put in a service request twice now, and they’ve been fantastic. The dryer in the home we're renting out broke and the fuse burned out. I submitted the claim online and the process was very efficient, smooth and user-friendly. I was quite pleased with it. Our home where the dryer was being replaced is in Colorado and we're stationed in Georgia, so we had to help walk the contractor through the process. It might not be the normal process for everyone, but we were involved every step of the way just to make sure the tenants could meet the appointments. The contractor tried to fix it, but they couldn’t find a replacement part and so we just got another one. Overall our experience has been wonderful.

Both of the AC units in my house had issues. I have AHS since I heard good things about them from my family and I submitted a claim online. It was a good experience. Filing the claim was very easy and you can also do it on the phone but I prefer doing it online. Then the contractor came out and told me he couldn't do anything because my ACs shouldn't be cooling as low as 72 or 74 like they have been for five years. So, they blew me off. It was very frustrating because the ACs couldn't cool below 78 or 80 all summer, which the tech said was normal, and I no longer called for a second opinion because AHS doesn't pay for that. But the tech said that I could have them out as many times as I wanted. Nothing was gonna change though.

My wall oven stopped working. I was told that it was a power thing, but when I got that done on my own, I was told something about cooling. It didn't give me a code though. I tried again later and once, the unit worked after a switch out in the garage was flipped. But later, it stopped working again. So I called American Home Shield. They sent a couple of different people and they were very nice. The first guy who came out was able to figure out what was wrong, but he told me that he couldn't pull the unit out of the wall because he didn't have anyone to help him. He told me that he would tell the warranty people that they needed to send other people. Another guy came and he determined the same problem the first guy determined. He went and ordered the part, and then he came back and fixed the unit. The whole repair took a couple of weeks.

Our faucet was totally disintegrated and I had told AHS that the faucet needed to be replaced, so they thought of sending a technician. When he came in, he said that they would get back to me after they checked to see if it was covered under my warranty, but they never did. I called the company to follow up, but they put me on hold and kept telling me that they gotta call the technician to find out what was going. Only the tech had any control over what was happening, which was weird. Also, the rep said that the faucet had to be special ordered through American Home Shield, which they did, and they would have to wait for it to be delivered. But they didn't order the part when they initially came out and they didn’t do anything until I called them.

I got updates from the company, telling me that the part still hadn’t come in. But now, I haven't heard from them and I still have no faucet in my kitchen. Everything else has always been fine with AHS, except for this one. American Home Shield covers some stuff, but I have to wait for them and they’re more of a repair versus replace. They're gonna be fixing stuff until they absolutely have no choice, which I'm okay with because I rather have something than nothing.
