I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield for my refrigerator and the experience was excellent as well as the interactions with the rep and the contractor. The lady who was running the office personnel called me every time anything was decided and I found that very unusual but it was good. The young man fixed the refrigerator and it came out perfectly. I had a different type of home insurance policy before with a different company and it was horrible. AHS does it nicely and I always get a little follow up email. I have three policies with them, so that's why they're good and I would recommend them.

We recently had plumbing and pool claims with American Home Shield. I had several drains in the house that were backing up and branching out through the house and I submitted a claim for it online and their website seemed to be fairly reasonable. It would be nice though if there was a way to update a claim and I can select multiple related items when I create a ticket. If I forget an item, I can't update the ticket. Once it's done, it's done and when I called the guy in, I got the runaround.

It’s frustrating and expensive since I have to create a new ticket and pay another deductible, but the quality of service was pretty good. The plumbing repair was quick and the only problem was I reported it over the weekend. I used to get a little frustrated when I find something on the weekend and it's too late, especially when I couldn’t take a shower and I worried about flushing the toilet. But other than that, the contractors came out quickly and generally the response on the claims that we've had have been pretty quick.

The other issue was with the pump and there was confusion there. I heard a little noise and then it was louder. The next day, it was a lot louder. The next day, it was just an imminent failure but AHS canceled the ticket. I got the runaround in going through to try and get it cleared up. At one point, they thought it was a warranty pump because it had been less than a year. They sent out the guy from the manufacturer and he said that they only warranty if it's the whole system - the motor and the pump. It was only the motor that was replaced last year, so they couldn't warranty it. That just got us back and forth between them and the tech doing it and then AHS. There was confusion about whether it should be covered and it went on and on.

I've also had difficulties getting through the phone when I had wanted to talk to somebody at AHS. The guy I ended up talking to about the pump issue ended up calling sales and having them transfer me. The online experience has been far better than trying to talk to anybody. Also, I forgot to report that there was also a problem with the pool controller when I reported a problem with the pump. The controller is controlling but I can’t read the LCD panel. If I push the buttons and know what I’m doing, I can cycle through it and make it work but over half of it is not visible, so I can't tell what state it's in. I called to try to add that on the ticket and the rep said that he couldn't do it unless he got a report with an issue from the person that they sent out. The person that they sent out said that there was no way they could do it and that they couldn’t look at it unless AHS told them to look at it.

This ticket with the pool still hasn’t been finished yet and it has been about a month now. I couldn't use the pool. I got a separate cleaning system and I’m having a hard time treating the pool. I was able to circulate the water through the pool but I couldn't circulate it through the filter. I could circulate chemicals and balance but without the filter, it was really frustrating. This issue with the pool pump has been a big mess. But the product has been shipped and a tech is scheduled for tomorrow. In general, I've been happy with American Home Shield.

We had an air conditioning unit that was 20 something years old, and American Home Shield wouldn’t do anything about it. They sent out one company whose recommendation was the unit was too old and that it should be replaced. They didn’t like that answer, so they sent out another company who told me the same information, and they didn’t like that answer either. They didn’t want to do different tests and figure out where a leak could be or may not be, which was then extending my not having air conditioning. We ended up having to buy a new air conditioning and heating unit out-of-pocket because they wouldn't do anything. They ended up giving us $1,000 as a pay-out, but we spent 10 grand after paying them thousands of dollars for service.

I submitted a claim online to AHS about my microwave. I tried calling before and I was trying to find a representative and it took me more than 30 minutes especially when I was trying to explain to them the problem. Because in the beginning, there was a contractor that came out. And what he was telling me was to clean my microwave, take it off the wall, open the whole appliance, and clean the grease out of the electrical system before he could fix it. I said I didn’t even know how to take that off. I told AHS what he was trying to do. They told me, I was supposed to just clean where I put my food in. I said I didn’t want that contractor and I wanted a different one. Because I looked online about that contractor and he got some bad reviews. I figured we’d go with someone else.

I wish AHS would be easier to contact. Every time that I would contact them, they would send me the same guy that I don’t like fixing my appliances, the one I had a bad experience with. Then I had to call them and need to get a hold of somebody, which would take about 45 minutes. I had to explain to them that I don’t want this guy working on my appliances, that I need a different one because he’s already wounded me and he wants me to do stuff that I don’t even know and I’m not an electrical savvy guy.

But the one who did my microwave was really nice and professional. He came here thrice because he couldn’t get the part. When he actually couldn’t fix it, they told me if they could just come over and take it and then bring it back when it’s working. So, they took the microwave. After less than four days, they fixed it. It was really good. He came back and installed it. It’s working perfectly fine now.

I live in a small town and American Home Shield usually gets somebody two to three hours away to fix things. It takes time for the company to come out here and they don't give us the first preferential treatment. We had an electric company come out and the interaction with the techs wasn't too pleasant. At first, we had somebody who just said our furnace needed to be clicked on, and he did it for two minutes. He turned off the fuse box that went out. But we turned around and had to call them back because it wouldn't heat. The electric company didn't come back right away and it took about two or three weeks for them to come back. They checked it out and they were gonna fix it that day, but then they said that they couldn’t fix it and that it needed to be replaced.

I wish American Home Shield would try and get somebody closer because we had somebody 45 minutes away before to fix our electricity, and they were quick. Nevertheless, I have been satisfied with American Home Shield. I was looking once into another company because it was totally cheaper, but in a year’s time, they didn’t fix anything. The only thing they did was take my money. I went back to American Home Shield and will not leave. I wouldn't be without the warranty from them and I recommend it to several people at our church.

He fixed the AC and he did it fast. So far, it’s still working good.

American Home Shield sent Aaron Plumbing & Heating a couple of times. They worked on our kitchen sink which was fixed before. They came out for the same leak. I called in my claim because the selection they have online is kind of vague. For example, if I say it's a certain item and that’s what’s wrong because that’s the only given, then they’ll say I didn’t say that. I learned the hard way that I have to go to a person because then they tell me that because I did not tell them that these things were wrong with it, I gotta make a new order, and the person couldn't fix it.

The first electrician AHS sent out was a problem. He was just saying that we were gonna have to pay everything out of pocket. That was even before he even came out. I told them that they haven’t even looked at what was going on and they were already saying that everything would have to be paid out of pocket. AHS sent someone else and he was okay and did what he was supposed to do.

I also have had difficulties with my property in Georgia. When it comes to things like my furnace, they always want to convert. If the part is no longer available for my furnace or things like that, then they want me to have the people do some type of converting thing. They just put in a water heater at my house and they said they don’t pay for alterations and all alteration seem to cost $1,000. So it doesn’t matter if it’s a water heater, the air conditioning unit, or the heater. Everything is $1,000 and you have to pay out of pocket. But overall, I have not had any real great problems.

I called American Home Shield to have them send someone to fix the refrigerator I had. Its compressor was not working. The people they sent attempted three times but couldn't fix the unit. It was a long process. American Home Shield then told me that they can either give me some money and I could buy a refrigerator on my own then provide them the proof of purchase or I could go to a website and pick one from the units offered there. I decided to buy a unit on my own and get the reimbursement. It took 2 months before I got the refrigerator but I'm happy that I was given a new one. That was really good. I'd highly recommend American Home Shield.

My air conditioner quit working. Two bedrooms were not receiving any air flow. I put in a request for service and American Home Shield responded immediately and Anthem Air Conditioning responded the next morning setting up an appointment 3 days later (they could come the following day but I was unavailable). The technician arrived on time and was very pleasant and professional. Upon completion of his inspection, he had replaced the filter (very dirty) stating this would cause poor air flow. He also suspected a probable dirty coil.

This is from my copy of his report: "Started unit up had low suction. checked filter completely clogged (washable kind beyond washing). Replaced filter 16x25x1 suction and discharge were good. took amp draws on comp and fan below RLA, customer complained lack of airflow to certain bedrooms, the filter would cause this but also a lot of dirt in blower unit compartment. Believe evap coil may also be partially dirty good suction and superheat so not completely plugged. Unit is cooling fine at this time. Unit holds 6-7 lbs R-22. if coil needs to be removed and cleaned, condenser coil fins are deteriorating. Recommend upgrade program due to age of equip unit is 5 ton gas split up flow 80% 80,000 BTU." I was advised by the tech I would be responsible for the cost of the R-22 and it would cost 600-700 dollars.

I received a call from Anthem stating they had talked with American Home Shield and had been authorized to fix the unit. They went on to explain I would be responsible for the R-22 and the cost would be $1300.00, as it cost $100/lbs. I told her I could not afford that and she became very snippy and rude. I declined service at this time. An hour later I received a call from American Home Shield stating the same. Your representative stated Anthem had told them the coil was completely blocked and needed replacement. I told her that was not what the tech told me and read to her my copy of recommendations. She stated she could only go by what Anthem had told American Home Shield. I asked if you received a copy of the recommendation and was told that you do not and only get a phone message. Your representative also stated that the person she had talked to at Anthem was not a very pleasant person.

I also questioned the cost for me. Was told I would have to take that up with Anthem that you could not help me. I told your representative I was extremely frustrated, literally hot under the collar, 105 degrees outside and 90 degrees in my house, and asked how to cancel out of the program. She said she would transfer me to the retainment department and upon doing so got a recording saying the length of wait time was over 2 minutes and refer to contract and a hang up.

I have called 5 different air conditioning companies in the area and found the charges for the coolant $75, $125 and $100 for 3 companies. I asked 3 companies how much coolant would be required and was told by two between 6-7lbs and the third 8 lbs max. This is the same as what the tech told me. Why the 1300.00 charge??? I called American Home Shield again today and reexplained everything and was asked to hold. Music played for a few minutes then the call was dropped. Very POOR customer service. Company does not help resolve issues. Still don't know how to cancel service.

They are telling me it gonna be 7 days before they can get the unit to the air conditioner company. Then they will schedule to install at a convenient time for them. It’s not ok. Then they are still charging extra if I’m gonna pay to have the thing replaced and have to wait 11+ days to get it done. Why do I need the warranty company. I could pay the AC company and have it done the next day. The first time I used them for something it took over 2 months to get the issue fixed. On top of that when you call it literally takes them 45 mins to answer the phone then they need to transfer you and it takes that person 45 mins to answer the phone and then it happens once more and then they say I need to do this then call you back then you never get a call so the process starts again.

The "Contact Us" button on the website goes to the phone number or "Request Service" which requires payment. Even the "Not Fixed?" button on the closed service call takes me to "Request Service", for a new fee. The washer drain was backing up. AHS sent a plumber for the $80 fee. The man said there was no cleanout and quoted me $1300 for the job. I called another plumber, who for $165 used the vent pipe to clear the blockage. Now I can't reach anyone at AHS to refund my service fee. Seems only fair but they won't talk and there's no contact or email on the website. Anything having to do with air conditioning or water heater systems, expect to be "held hostage". AHS drags their feet on these, presumably in hopes that you will pay to fix it yourself, rather than wait in the heat, or without hot water. Sent out an A/C company that charged me $500 [not covered by AHS] then A/C broke down 2 weeks later & told me I needed a whole new system. Drug their feet to tell AHS anything & when they found out they couldn't give me a quote [see above charge $500], they said I just needed a compressor & AHS only paid $475 - I had already replaced my system with another company for $9100 [due to heat in Texas] 1/2 hour on hold every time you call them - no resolution - They just want you off the phone. Also does not cover color replacement [stainless, etc.] of appliances, so you have to cover the difference.

American Home Shield contacted us and said that the replacement was approved and they would proceed. There was no word from anyone for two weeks so we called and they said that they had screwed up and never ordered the replacement. They assured us that they had now ordered it with expedited shipping.

It is now October and there is still no word from them. We have called and waited on hold until we were forced to hang up. September is one of the hottest months here and it has been absolutely horrific. At this point it has become clear that American Home Shield has no intention of ever actually paying for the new compressor and they are just waiting for us to break down and buy something ourselves. I can’t see how anyone would actually pay this company money. Our washer has also broken down during this time but there is no way I will pay them the service fee to come out here and do nothing, I will just buy a new washer, it’s far less hassle.

I have been with American Home Shield for 12 years and when we had issues, it was apples to apples, meaning, we had a top-of-the-line softener and it took AHS two months to find the equipment, which I found right online instantly. Still, they bought a top-of-the-line water softener as a replacement. But with my garbage disposal, the one they gave me was pure junk. Even the fellow who came here said he had never heard of the brand. That it's probably made in China. What happened was, we had a garbage disposal that was with us for eight years. It finally went out so they replaced it. But the new garbage disposal lasted a little over a year. So I spoke to AHS and said the original disposal I had was a couple of $100s. They replaced it with a $50 unit whose brand name I've never heard before.

My wife got a good garbage disposal at Costco and we had a handyman put it in. The handyman said that the one he replaced that was from AHS has the whole inside rusted. It's supposed to be stainless steel and yet it was all rusted inside. So I'm very dissatisfied with the quality that American Home Shield allows to come out.

As for my recent claim, the garage door would start out and go back up again by itself. I looked through the paperwork on the garage door but I couldn't figure it out. The tech I spoke with was personable, although he didn't offer any information. When I asked what should I do to maintain the garage door, he said that for $45 he will come out and do a service call. He did offer to do something, but he was standing on the ladder, and it would’ve looked funny if he came down and then asked me to do it. What he did though was turn a little screw and the garage door has been working fine. In closing, I have told quite a few neighbors about American Home Shield but for the most people that I talked to, they say the price is high.

I ended up working something out and in general, I am happy with them. However, if something breaks down beyond repair, they’ll replace it with whatever they wanna replace it with but not with the quality and the value.

They have one company here that works on high-end appliances and I keep telling them that I only wanna work with Professional Appliance Repair who knows how to work on these appliances. I'm always fighting to get AHS to hire them to do the work for me. When I spoke to Professional Appliance, they said that AHS always try to go with a cheaper company first who don’t know what they’re doing. Then, they constantly call Professional Appliance who do know what they’re doing to fix up the messes. I want Professional Appliance Repair to come to me to begin with, not to fix up a mess. I understand the desire to try to get the work for cheaper, but in the long run, I and they are paying more money. It doesn’t seem fair that I should be paying more money.

When I called the vendor and asked why they were not coming up, they said AHS probably took them off again because AHS doesn't wanna call them so much. However, they have always been able to call and get themselves put back on. I'm waiting for a repair job and I haven't heard back from AHS yet, which is too stressful for me. I'm constantly on the phone with them about that. If I request a vendor that has been in their vendor list, they should keep the vendor in their list for people who have high-end appliances. I always submit claims over the phone for that reason. I'm fighting for a need every time and you can only fight for what you need when you're speaking on the phone about it. They should have a page that asks who I would like to be my vendor.

In general, the people I've spoken to are pleasant but I’ve also had experiences where AHS sent me somebody to fix a refrigerator and they not only did not fix it but broke it beyond repair and I needed a new refrigerator. If they send somebody like that to work on my Sub-Zero or Dacor and break it beyond repair, I get left with having to replace a Sub-Zero. I also had contractors who said they finished the job but didn’t. I lead a very busy life and sometimes I don’t have an hour to spend on the phone. I know there is a problem and that it wasn’t fixed, but I put off calling AHS because I knew it was gonna be at least an hour phone call, and I didn’t have an hour very often. Then, I ended up forgetting about it and by the time I called back, it was past the 60 days and I have to pay another $75 fee. Although it could be a bit easier and less stress-free, I'm happy that I have AHS and that I have someone to call when something breaks down.

I only had two services with an electrician and a plumber, and I made two payments. American Home Shield still thinks that I owe one payment and they said my account was past due. I don't want to pay because I know I won't get the money back afterward. Also, submitting a claim to American Home Shield was difficult. It was hard to talk to people and then they didn’t know exactly what they were doing. I've talked to four people, and the case about the payment is still going on. Also, the last contractor who came over was great but all the other ones were not. I won't do business with American Home Shield anymore.

He said it didn’t look like to be a problem with the air conditioner. And they then sent out an electrician who came out, and he found some electrical components that he needed to replace. Once he did that, everything worked fine and I’ve had no issues with the air conditioner since. The technicians that came out were very good as well and I had no problems with them.

We've used AHS for the last few years since we've owned the home and submitting a claim online to American Home Shield was easy but it was a little bit more difficult to have them call me back. I had a problem with my breaker and they sent an electrician to fix it. He was prompt and courteous. I also filed a claim to have a washing machine repaired that they claimed was unrepairable. The option that they gave me to replace it was minimal, so I just took the cash and bought my own washing machine. That was three weeks ago. Then for the third case that I claimed, they never called me back so I just said, “Forget it.” It's not the best service. It's just okay and I'm not sure I'm gonna renew.

American Home Shield has the online process for claims submission so I was able to do that after hours when I got home from work. It was very easy too. The icemaker on my refrigerator had broken and I appreciated that the contractor who was assigned called me to reschedule. He said his schedule had cleared up earlier than he thought and that he could come three days earlier than we had planned, which really helped with my schedule as well. It was great dealing with him and the ice maker has been working perfectly since. It's like it's brand-new. I'm glad I had the warranty when I needed it. Plus it's worth the money. It paid for itself and it gives me peace of mind that if something breaks, it's not going to be a massive hit to my savings account if it's just a simple little repair. I've even recommended American Home Shield to my parents and they are starting their plan as well.

Both of my air conditioning coils were leaking and when I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield, I found out that at night and weekends, it’s simple to go online and get a quick response. I could also follow up directly with the vendor if I need to. American Home Shield sent out a good crew. They were responsive and did everything that I could ask. They came out, evaluated, and worked out a solution which included having to replace my outside units. I had to pay for those because it’s a regulation with North Carolina to switch over to the new Freon, but the price and the service that was negotiated was satisfactory.

There was an issue on the first night and the contractor came out and took care of it the next day, with just a wire connection. It was hot waiting for the repair, but the repair made the days better and I hope the air conditioner is more efficient than a 15-year old unit. I had a great experience with American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

We had a leak in the pipe that went into the toilet. I filed a claim with AHS online and I had a call. The contractor went out to Lynnhaven to fix up a plumbing thing and I paid the deductible online. Mike, who had the house listed, met the guy out there. The first guy who came wouldn't wait because he didn't have a gate code. Mike had to wait three hours then and another two hours the second time. I sold the house and the warranty was supposed to be transferred into the buyer's name. The buyers haven't complained about the repair. I've had to fight with AHS all the time and the experience has really been a nightmare. Contractors are supposed to go out within so many days, but it takes forever, especially when I got an air conditioning problem. Plus, they have all kinds of excuses. I've had to call Stephanie, our representative, for her to straighten things out.

I also call another special number and, except for one thing, they help me out most of the time. I've had to wait on the phone for 45 minutes though, which was horrible. Then when you get hung up on, you have to call back again and wait another 45 minutes to an hour. I should not have to call the rep every time to get something taken care of. It's like vendors don't want to really do it and just want you to forget about it and go on. AHS canceled one house on me because they had too many claims. One claim was a double-up claim and it shouldn't have been. Now I have First American on that house. I have American Home Shield on the house I have presently in Santa Maria. That has been okay when I've had to call them.

The claims agents from AHS who assisted me were straightforward. They said someone would come out and look at it and they would let us know what needed to be done, whether it was something that needed to be replaced all the way or whether it was fixable.

While I didn't have any problems with American Home Shield, the company that came out to fix my AC was not pleased with them. The guy let me know that American Home Shield has a history of making it difficult to get the “okay” to do certain things. And he went on and on for a while about having work issues with AHS and that they were having a difficult time servicing for American Home Shield. But everything was done smoothly and quickly and the repair was done within a week. Since the repair, my AC is working perfectly. Submitting claims over the phone with American Home Shield takes forever. It's ridiculous. However, I still call because online, I can't explain what the issue is. I just click a box but there's nowhere to type in the issues. If there will be a comment box, it would definitely improve the online process a lot and then I could use that. Recently, I submitted a claim for our washing machine. The tub was rubbing on the bottom. The first contractor that American Home Shield sent out, AAA Appliances, never called me and couldn't get anything worked out. I was trying to talk to AAA but they wouldn't even text me, so I had to get that claim re-filed.

I went with a different company, GE Appliance, and they were wonderful. They did an absolutely excellent job and I was very happy with them. The GE tech heard what I had heard from our washing machine before. He did a really good job and was able to fix the problem. Everything has been okay, but I think one of the issues is coming back. I’m listening to it and if it is, the GE tech might have to come back as well.

Scheduling a service with American Home Shield is too difficult. One time, the garbage disposal was leaking all over, so I had to file a claim. For some reason, American Home Shield cancelled my appointment, so I had to call back and stay on the phone with them. I also had another claim for the air conditioner. Again, I had AAA Appliance, which I guess is the jack-of-all-trades, and I was concerned about that. They cancelled their appointment too. Then American Home Shield rescheduled everything and I was on hold for 45 minutes while they did that. Hers & His Plumbing showed up but AAA never called me or did anything, so I had to call again and find out what went on. I had to reschedule and I was on hold again for 30 minutes.

I spent more time on hold with American Home Shield but if I had that comment box online, I wouldn't have to do this. There were more issues with the air conditioner, and online, I can only click one box. I can't put all the issues on at one time. But if I could, I'd file the claim online, click the issues, explain everything out and be done with it rather than be back on hold again with the reps. They also asked me if I wanted to stay on hold for 20 minutes or if I wanted a callback, and I told them to call me back. After the call, they told me I was next but they put me on hold for 50 minutes before they picked up. Finally, AAA called me back yesterday and we have an appointment set up with them now. Still, American Home Shield needs to know that their claims process is not user-friendly.

I've had the worst experience of my life with this company. They do not care. I honestly don't know how they have 4 stars on this page - some reviews must be fake because we are out $5,000 and they have DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but offer us $500, which doesn't even pay for the cost of our contract with them. Let me be clear: We are OUT $1,000 (contract monthly rate and freon costs) + $4,000 for a new A/C unit which is mandatory in NC because the parts can't be mixed up under code. American Home Warranty - essentially, stole $5000 of our hard-earned money, not to mention our TRUST. We would be better off if we had never heard of them at all.

Here's the whole story: My name is Briana ** and I'm a local Apex resident. We paid American Home Shield $600 for a warranty to cover our appliances and A/C. We specifically chose them because they cover A/C issues and replacement and we were hoping to avoid any huge costs to our bottom line - in case anything went wrong, as we have two kids and lots of bills.

This month, we had a problem with the A/C at our home and we were so thankful we had the home warranty. We immediately called them, and they sent contractors who told us we had to first pay for Freon to "see if there was a leak," in our HVAC system. We paid $100 for them to come out and $370 for the freon because they didn't cover this cost. Well, the freon leaked out within 24 hours. They returned to our house to try and see what the problem was. The contractors pointed to our coil and air handler and said they weren't working. My husband asked the contractor, "How much does a coil cost?" and he said, "Around $2000 to replace, but you'll need to replace the whole system because the state of NC requires that you have all parts to code."

We talked to the company numerous times, spending hours out of our day on the phone with their agents. Their solution? They said the part cost $500, not $2000. They would only pay the contractors (who were their choice of contractors) $500. We talked to 3 contractors - they ALL quotes us between $4,000-$45000 minimum. We were left with a $4,500 dollar option to pay on our own - after we had already spent over $1,000 to try and fulfill "their requirements."

They say: they don't put things up to NC code. We say: this is a terrible way to treat a consumer who has put their trust in your warranty. Their very own contractors said they have to get the money somewhere - so that $500 doesn't cover their ACTUAL cost of $2000 for the part plus the other $2500 we will pay because we cannot just replace the part, we have to replace the whole system under NC law. Can you help us? This company is defrauding other consumers. The worst part is, we are out more money from buying this warranty than we would be if we had never bought the warranty at all. They have provided nothing to us - we would have been better off without it.

The oven was broken. I called in a claim with American Home Shield and it was pretty easy. I told them what was wrong and they said they'd send someone out to look at it. The contractors have to do it within 24 hours, so they usually contact me between then. For this claim, the stove was 40 years old and it was the original stove here in my house when it was built. The techs thought that was funny and they replaced it because there was no way they could get the parts to fix it. They sent a replacement from GE, a company out of Grand Prairie or Dallas, and they had to bring it down here. Then they were supposed to put it in but they couldn’t because it is propane. So they had to call the original people to come out and look at it, and they came back and put it in for me. It took a couple weeks to get a stove, but it wasn’t too bad.

I also filed a claim when the central heat went out and the techs that AHS sent out fixed that by putting a whole new unit in. Then my icemaker went out and I also had plumbing leaks and they fixed that. So far, the contractors I've had have all been very professional and really good. I have American Home Shield for seven years now and I’ve never even looked at a different one. They cover everything and they're not expensive. They’ve always been quick at fixing stuff, too. They get things done within 24 hours where they somewhat get the contractors to come and get everything fixed and set up. They are a good company.

My tenant's garbage disposal has been getting in trouble. They had to keep pressing the reset button, and it finally wouldn’t run again so I called AHS. I talked to the plumber who was coming on a service call and told him it was a 12-year-old garbage disposal and the tenants said it was all rusted, so probably it would need a new one rather than just Band-Aid it and they had to come back again. Instead of replacing it, they got it to work again.

The part that’s most annoying is that aside from my premium, I pay $100 for the service call and the reality is that they could’ve put a new disposal and fixed it for that same 100 bucks. If I would've called the plumber, that’s how much it would've cost, or I could’ve gone to Home Depot and bought one for 60 bucks, and the other 40 would've been for installing it, instead of putting a Band-Aid on it. Another month or two months from now I have a feeling that I’m gonna have to call again. But as far as getting the guy out there, that was perfect and I couldn’t ask for better. We have three houses and three contracts with AHS. I had a plumbing problem at my Pennsylvania house, and they sent a plumber who I used to use when I lived there. He fixed it and everything was great.

American Home Shield seemed a little more credible and they seemed like the leader in the industry. Recently, 1st Choice Heating & Air came out when my air conditioner wasn’t working. I made the claim online and the AHS website was pretty good. Also, the tech was really nice, friendly and professional. However, I need to call the Home Shield people because I’m starting to have an issue with the air conditioner again.

We had to call American Home Shield to submit a claim since we were having an issue with the bathroom. The tank was leaking in the toilet. But whenever I called the customer service, I had long holds. It was not a very quick way to put the claims in or to reach out to customer service. The contractor that AHS sent out was professional and very courteous, but I was not told that the thing had to be replaced. I thought that my warranty contract with AHS would take care of all the issues that we had, from the appliances to the plumbing, but I found out that I had to pay from my pocket for the replacement of the entire product. Everything is fine now, but that was not a pleasant experience. AHS has less than average quality of service.

American Home Shield originally sent Cali Pool which misdiagnosed what was wrong with my pool. Cali Pool collected its service fee and was telling me that the entire system needs to be changed, and American Home Shield is not covering, and then they would give me a price to cover it. Had I not had the bad experience with them two years earlier, I would have probably said, “Okay, go ahead and do it.” Once I reached out to AHS and told them that Cali Pool has been at my house a couple of years prior and that they are not really an expert with the pool and that they’re just out there to collect their deductible, AHS agreed to send me another company without asking me for the service charge. A-1 Pool came, the technician looked at the equipment and he immediately found out what was wrong. It was just a switch that was flicked in a wrong direction.

I told American Home Shield that I want that particular vendor to be taken off the list for future purposes for my repair, and they accepted that. The fact that they accepted to send A-1, and the fact that A-1 was really a high-quality company which diagnosed the problem correctly made me feel valued and I felt that this is a company that backs up its client. I was, overall, very happy with the way they handled it. I sometimes go online and submit a claim but when something is a bit more complicated and I have to explain what’s going on, then I would call in.

I have had very positive experience with American Home Shield. Everyone that AHS sent have expertise to easily solve the problem, whether it’s a plumber or electrician. Cali Pool was the only one that was a flaw. When I made the phone call originally and explained what is going on with my swimming pool, I specifically asked not to send Cali Pool, but they still sent them. I don’t know whether there was a miscommunication. Nonetheless, I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and I've never had any problems with them that’s why I have stayed with them. I've recommended them to other members of my family and my friends, and they all use American Home Shield.

My experience with American Home Shield was terrible and the biggest issue is with the guys that they are associated with. Those guys don't call and don't show up. They don't let us know what time they’re coming or that they can't make it. They won't even call to say that they are on the way. We got numerous properties and we use American Home Shield, so our renters need to be assisted within 24 hours but when we call Home Shield, the contractors don't call and they do BS work. The guy right now fixing my microwave said that the part would take about three days but there hasn't been a follow up yet. So, we still haven't got the microwave fixed.

The guy that was supposed to come for the AC called us to say that he would be a little late because of the rain. I asked him what time he was coming and he told me that as soon as the rain finishes. 24 hours passed, the rain stopped and I called to ask if he was coming but he didn't return my call. He called Sunday morning to say that he would come at about 8:00 that Sunday morning. He told me that he wanted to get here before a game started. So, we just decided to get the issues fixed ourselves with somebody else because it was what we've done in the past. The people associated with AHS are not doing their job and AHS can't control them and right now, we're wasting money with American Home Shield. AHS is not on point and they need to get that fixed.

I have a washer problem that started last March. We had four guys come out to try and fix it. But they couldn't fix it. The guys from the first company came and said they had to get another part. They got the part, came out, and said it was fixed. It worked for two washes, and then it stopped working. Then another company came out and said the guys from the first company didn’t fix the entire situation. And so, they tried to fix it. They ordered the part, which took another three weeks. When that part came in, they tried to put it in and fix it, and said, the part's not gonna fix it. They said my machine is completely gone and that I needed a new machine.

Three weeks later, we got something from American Home Shield saying that I have the option to either have them buy us a new machine based off the make and model or take the check. We told them that we want to pay the check because we were buying a new house and moving. Two months later, we're still waiting on the check.

A pipe burst and the basement in my house was flooded. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the claims reps were extremely helpful. They gave me the number of the plumber. At first, I thought the pipe was just leaking but the pipe ended up bursting. I was able to get the plumber and he did the repair as an emergency situation. My dealings with the plumber was fantastic. When the pipe burst, he was on another service call and yet he still walked me through what I needed to do to turn off the water in my home. When he was finished with that other job, he came over and fixed my pipe quickly. I was very pleased with the high priority that was given to my problem and everything has been fine since he came out.

I was happy with the quick response. I’ve tried other home protection companies and the response has not been as quick nor the contractors as good. But the prices of AHS are way too high versus other home warranty companies. The premium is almost $60 and the service fee is a $100 if you want your entire home covered and most people would want that. I’ve left them three times but I’ve come back because it was less money with the other companies but their response to calls was horrible. At least, AHS responds within 24 hours and I appreciate that.

Another thing I don’t like, though, is that people usually have more than one refrigerator but AHS doesn’t cover anything that’s not inside the home. Most people have a refrigerator or a freezer outside in their garage and my understanding is that AHS doesn’t cover any of that. Despite that and even though AHS is a little pricey, they're the best home warranty company that I’ve had and you can’t beat their response times.

American Home Shield sent out a nice guy from Precision Appliance Repair for my leaking dishwasher. He took it all apart and said that the interior door gasket was torn up, but the exterior door gasket was good and it should not be leaking. He also said that we had and oversudsing problem and advised me to change the soap and to call them back if I continued having problems. So we changed soap and it quit sudsing, but it was still leaking. I called the company back and I was told that they were gonna refer it back to AHS to get a different company and that it wouldn’t cost me anything since the problem hadn’t been resolved.

I requested for the next guys to call me half an hour before they’d get to our home because I couldn’t sit at home for four hours in the middle of a workday and wait for them to show up. However, they did not call me prior to showing up. My wife was in the shower getting ready for work when they came and then she called me, so I showed up. The guys took it all apart and went back and forth, but they did not know what was wrong with it and they couldn’t physically see anything wrong with it. They said that it might need to be replaced and they would call AHS who would follow up with me. However, the company never called and followed up with American Home Shield. Four days later, I called American Home Shield and they said they hadn’t heard anything and assumed it was fixed.

At that time, American Home Shield said that they would send a third person out from Sears Home Appliance. We originally submitted the claim in the middle of August and it is already the middle of October and it is still not fixed. But, I feel a bit better about it because Sears is a reputable company. If Sears Home Appliance can’t figure it out, I will assume that they will say it needs to be replaced, at which time it is included in the contract.

My experience with American Home Shield has been typical of any other aftermarket warranty program. AHS is quick to take the money but they are slow to fix the problem when it is something they are liable for. But it was included with our VA home loan and the sellers had the warranty. We upgraded the warranty and paid an extra 100 bucks to get coverage on everything. So, even if it takes a year, as long as the dishwasher gets fixed, it will pay for itself because it only cost us 100 bucks.

I let American Home Shield know that I am not particularly pleased and they are not paid an annual fee to not fix my appliances. I spent $600 to replace a garage door motor and another $350 to replace a broken garage door spring that was not covered under their program. Their program covers the dishwasher and I expect the dishwasher to be fixed.

On the other hand, American Home Shield’s customer service is good. They are decent people to work with, however, like every other warranty program, they are trying to use the cheapest contractors they can. Instead of getting somebody that knows what they are doing, they get two guys that barely speak English showing up in a white, unmarked van. And that’s how it’s gone from day one and I’m tired of some random dude in a white van showing up. AHS needs to get a reputable contractor out to fix the dishwasher or they just need to buy me a new one.

My house was getting older but it is a great house. So we were considering selling it and my sister talked me into the home warranty. She said that they've a great experience with American Home Shield and that we should get it, too, and protect our house instead of selling it. It was worrying me that I was gonna have to start facing repairs, so I asked around. I got a lot of negative feedback not only about American Home Shield but about the home warranties in general . People said that they weren’t worth it, that they only replace parts and only repaired things not replace them. To me, I was fine with them repairing my things as long as it was covered. I went ahead with my sister's recommendation and purchased American Home Shield.

They’ve been wonderful and I love them. When I submit a claim, I usually call over the automated thing and within an hour I have an email telling me who’s gonna come out. Then that company calls me on the same day and they come right away. The process is so easy. Also, I have been so pleasantly impressed with AHS and I would recommend them to a lot of people.

One time, we had a side-by-side and the refrigerator part was not cooling. The freezer was working but I kinda noticed it was icing. So I had to use my little refrigerator for the food I had. I put in a claim with AHS and they sent Jimino’s out. Jimino’s ordered a cluster control and told me that American Home Shield had to order it. Then the tech fixed the refrigerator temporarily so I wasn’t really in a rush. But all of a sudden, the refrigerator started warming again. So I called and Jimino’s told me that I had to call American Home Shield because they haven’t gotten the part yet. I called American Home Shield and they told me I had to talk to appliance replacement. Then I found out that they couldn’t get the part for my refrigerator, so they offered me a replacement and I took the cash out.

I also submitted a claim for the air conditioner and I had an issue when they couldn’t get anybody for two weeks and I couldn’t wait that long. It was so hot and dry. But AHS was able to take care of that. Also, there was one contractor with a plumbing claim that I had that was awful and very unprofessional. He messed up my hardwood flooring which I didn’t do anything about because American Home Shield has been so good and it wasn’t their fault. But I called and told them what happened, and they switched vendors and sent me a new one who was great. So everybody else has been wonderful.

AHS has been great with us and I tell people all the time not to listen to the negatives because you don't know why their opinion is negative, and instead, listen to the people that have had positive experiences. I would also tell them to go with American Home Shield because I did some research online, looked at the reviews, and listened to people. I got a lot off my boss who said that every time he'd call for a repair or a claim, the warranty company would cancel. I got worried because there had been a couple of repairs that I’ve done myself because I was so afraid of getting cancelled. But other people said that they were not gonna cancel and that was why you have the warranty.

I went with a larger warranty with American Home Shield that would take care most of everything I have in my house, but then I’ve come to find out that some of it are not really under that. Also, some of the contractors that American Home Shield has sent out could have been better people. When I filed a claim for my water heater that was shorting out in some way, Greenway, the contractor that American Home Shield sent, wanted to put in something new and charge me $400 for that. I didn’t agree with that because when my water heater was put in a few years back, I didn’t have to have that on there. That's a lot of money and I have not paid Greenway because that's not fair. And they haven't called me back. So then, I had to leave my other hot water heater up there because they said the opening now wasn’t big enough for them to bring it down and that I would have to have all that taken down before they could break it.

I didn’t talk to American Home Shield about that since it’s really terrible to get in touch with them. You can be on the phone for more than an hour before getting someone which they should need to take care of better. I then paid American Home Shield for another company to come out. A guy came from Beacon Hill to fix the water heater and he was very unhappy. He was so nice, though, and their company has been super. They’ve done their job really well. He just didn’t understand why Greenway wasn't responsible for getting the water heater out of my attic.

I also have had a claim in for my sink and this is with Greenway too. The guy who was supposed to fix it said he couldn’t fix it. He also told me that he would get back with me in three or four weeks and that they've ordered it, but he never called me back and I paid $100 for that. Another thing that the guy told me when he came here was that I would be given the contractor's grade faucet. I have a regular one which is the silver kind but not the glossy type, and I was told they would not put it back in like that.

American Home Shield needs to drop the contractors that are a little iffy. Of course, they need someone to come out, but it's better off to wait a little while for the ones that are not that way. It's a lot to think about, but I've had this warranty for a long time now and they’ve replaced a lot of things with my central which was my main concern. So, as long as they can replace the parts, I'll keep my warranty with them.

Then, the second time, I used the machine one time after the techs came out and it worked for one wash. However, it never even finished draining out. The website was okay but I had a problem with it because we had a heat pump as opposed to a central air, so it kept thinking I was talking that the air wouldn’t work. But it’s a heat pump, so it was a little confusing.

I put in the claim on a Friday and the following Monday was a holiday. The company American Home Shield assigned the claim to doesn’t work on weekends or holidays, so it was gonna end up being four days before anybody would come out and we had 90 plus weather. I had to tell the company that it ain’t gonna work and I’m gonna call American Home Shield back and get somebody else. I did that and the rep found someone. She had me hold on while she contacted them to make sure that they could get to it and they were gonna get to it the very next day. When the contractor came, I followed him around. He went outside to check the unit and I stayed there with him to try and figure out what was going on. Also, I was curious about how it works because we never had a heat pump before.

Everything has been perfectly fine since the repair. However, American Home Shield's $75 fee is a little much, especially when it turns out to be something simple like when I had them come one time for ceiling fans and the technician didn’t have to do anything. He just flipped some little switch and that worked. They also ought to cover the annual inspection of our air conditioning and heating unit. We had Sears warranty on our other house and they cover that. You could get that once a year and it didn't cost. Still, American Home Shield is good.

The technician called me very soon, within a matter of hours, because I told them it was almost an emergency. I couldn't use my AC without drenching my ceiling and I didn't wanna drench my ceiling. A plumber first came out because I originally thought it was a piping issue with my solar water heater. We found out it wasn't that, it was the AC so I had to get a different technician from an AC company. The repair only took about an hour, which was about the time I expected it would take. My AC works fine now. My experience with American Home Shield was very positive. I have recommended AHS to many folks.

The air conditioner quit during the heat, the hundred degrees day. So I made the claim and it took about two and a half days for someone to get out. I expected that because of the heat though. He was also a little bit late but I think it was one of those things where the previous jobs kept holding him up. The contractor did call in advance that their buddy was running late but that he was still coming. It was about 9:30 at night when he finally showed up and he tried a couple of things immediately. When it didn't work, he took it apart and replaced the fan and the motor. Then it was up and running with no problem.

The only issue we had with American Home Shield was when we made a claim about some plumbing issues. We were trying to determine if we had a leak or not. We wanted to do a pressure testing and we clearly stated when we made the claim that that was what we needed done. But when the plumber came out, he didn't even come in the house. He said that they didn't do pressure testing and that it was not part of our warranty. American Home Shield tried to charge us the $75 but then a representative contacted us and we explained it. She waived the fee and credited us back our $75.

I also find it difficult when I call the representative. I think it's an offshore team and they're following a script. And if it's not on their script, they have no clue. So when I had the plumbing issue, I called the call center first to ask if they could help me. The lady was like, "Is it an act of God?" And I'm like, "No. He had nothing to do with it." I was trying to ask for a supervisor. She just didn't get it. I got so frustrated and I had to hang up. It's just the call center environment. We finally got a hold of them after I went to the website and we did a chat online. It was through a Yahoo Messenger-type thing. But still, what we needed got lost in translation. Aside from the plumbing issue, my oven has also quit now. I just took the plastic off from it a month ago and it's burnt a fuse. It can't be replaced so now I'm working with American Home Shield on the replacement of my oven. The people that they had sent out were perfect too. They did a great job helping me.

I wanted to have a rekeying done. Initially, a different company was identified by American Home Shield and I had a bit of a struggle. I called the number that I was provided and it went to what I thought was a home phone number. I left messages on four occasions. I looked them up in the Better Business Bureau and found out that they had a horrible rating.

I called American Home Shield and complained. They refunded my deposit which was good and they did that in a timely manner. They claimed that they had vetted the contractor. I find that suspect as I’m a retired criminal investigator, I’ve done a little bit of this myself over time and it was not a reputable company. I was very dissatisfied to the point I was gonna cancel. And then I was very surprised. A representative from American Home Shield called me and said that they terminated their arrangement with the first company and that they entered an arrangement with Pop-A-Lock. I said that I'd try that because I really wanna get the rekeying done. A service representative from Pop-A-Lock contacted me immediately and set up an appointment at a time that met my needs. They showed up driving a company truck, wearing a uniform with proper ID and provided excellent service. I could not be happier with Pop-A-Lock.

I may have just had a bad contractor that American Home Shield had on contract and I was impressed with their follow-up and commitment to get it right. I looked up American Home Shield and did a lot of research myself. I reached out to my neighbors and several of them have it and they had positive experiences. So, I took the first experience as a one-off.

When I submit claims over the phone, I sometimes get somebody who doesn’t sound like they’re even in the country. They talk too much like, “Okay, I understand, but you are calling us because you have a problem, right?” All that kind of stuff is annoying. It takes way too much time on the phone. But when I get other folks, they are normal. They get right to the point. I also submit claims online and my complaint about that is because I have three houses with American Home Shield and these are rental homes. I have to discuss with a human not to charge the renter. It’s me who pays. In addition to that, they should offer an incentive, a discount, when a customer has more than one house. Other companies call and give me their spiel, and it’s cheaper. It is tempting to leave for that.

I also always say to please have the technician call me but they don’t. The last once, ACE Heating & Cooling didn’t. I had to call them, try to hunt them down and get that report from them. Even with the Third Generation, they did not call me back either. The renters are there when the contractors come out and the contractors are in a hurry. They're busy and they wanna get moving but I would like to have them call me. That’s been an issue.

ACE had been a good company though. They had to come back for a follow-up. We had six to eight days of trying to get the part for the compressor and that took too long. My renter moved out and we had to pay for the hotel. They chose the Marriott, which we had to put a limit on after a while. But the repair is complete now. American Home Shield does follow through.

He said what he could do, what he had to do, and we set up times. It was under a time constraint because we were leaving for an extended period of time. He determined that the drain pump froze up and he was able to get the part. When we pulled the drain pump out, it had the impeller head moved from its housing, and it was causing the drain pump to cease. We got the part replaced before we left and my wife is loving the performance of our washer.

When I try to call, the waiting time is long and I guess it's because there are so many people, but I found a way to get around that is to call early in the morning and American Home Shield picks up right away. Even though they say the easiest way to go is to do the claim with a computer, I called American Home Shield on the phone for my Sub-Zero refrigerator and the interaction was great. The contractor came out about four or five times and did the best they could. They tried different things and changed some parts.

Eventually, the second contractor came out after they were assigned the case and they tried something. They told me to keep an eye on the fridge and if the fix doesn't work then that's it. We can't go on because the wall of the refrigerator is too old, and it's gone as far as it can. The fridge kept the items cold and they didn't spoil, but it kept getting off signals. It will start warming up fast if you open the door and it will go back down again, but we knew that that wasn’t the proper operation of Sub-Zero. It's 18 years old and it couldn’t be repaired, so I went to the cash in lieu and set up my copayment for a new Sub-Zero.

I got a speedy response and American Home Shield didn’t haggle about my claim. They put me on hold for a couple of minutes, came back and made an offer. I accepted, went out and purchased a new one. Everything is going well. I'm waiting on my check from the cash in lieu department, and I'll be good. American Home Shield has been very good to me having all of my products as well as in my daughter’s home. I have a policy on all of her products too in her home just in case. I've had it for a long time. If the air conditioner goes out or something else happens, they're right there. I'd recommend them.

When I bought my home and the contract was produced for me, I never had one single thing denied. When I call and submit a claim, I have a reply from American Home Shield's vendor and it’s always within 24 hours. The vendor would call and say, “I have a request on your behalf. Let’s set up a time to come out and look at it.” That is major because a customer is already frustrated when dealing with an issue then he has to wait two or three days to hear something and then another two days for the contractor to come out. The SLAs that AHS have with their vendors is topnotch. All the third-party contractors that come out have been professional and courteous.

My AC was out and it was the summertime, so it was hot. I had two systems and the company that came out claimed one of the systems wasn’t under the contract, which I called American Home Shield during that time. AHS was leagued with the contractor, but it was because of the wording the contractor used, which was not correct. I went back into my contract, read it thoroughly for myself, then called American Home Shield. They apologized profusely, put the quote as a transfer, so I would not have to pay another fee, and that was because I called them while the contractor was here.

Prior to the contractor starting to work, I told AHS that I I didn’t agree with the contractor as it was a repairable part, and because I did that, they had it documented, and we went back. They were able to transfer to another company. That took a few weeks, and it was just because of trying to align my schedule with the new contractor’s schedule. But everything was pretty seamless with the new contractor. He got the part and put it in, and everything’s working fine now. So, hands down, I like American Home Shield and I’ll continue to use them. They've been awesome and easy. I recommended them to a family member.

There was a leak on our bathtub, the toilet was leaking too and the bathtub and sink were locked. The master toilet was loose and I saw a leakage. The kitchen faucet was leaking as well and then, our main shut-off valve doesn't shut off all the way. I submitted the claim for repair online. Their website seemed straightforward. However, when it says leaks, there's no quantity adjustment. It just says leaks. I can specify how many leaks or how many stoppages were there. But for the leaks itself, I couldn't adjust the quantity. Nonetheless, I got a response through the phone within 24 hours of submitting the claim and in that same time period, I had the contractors come out and look at it. They were thorough, courteous and professional. They understand the frustration that we're going through.

So far, we haven't had it done yet. We're waiting for it to get approved. I got authorization last week, saying, "Hey, this has been approved." But AHS hasn't called 24 Hour Plumbing to say that it got approved. I got a call this morning for part of it but they still haven't received approval for the other work to get done. At this point, I had an electrical done and I had it fixed right away. But the plumbing has been open since August.

American Home Shield is worth it although they can't replace anything that's not on your contract so be ready for some frustration. Also, they have long hold time. So, if you are trying to get in, it would take up to 40 minutes. That was why I went through the website to file the first few claims because it's easier to do it that way. But to get stuff resolved like my plumbing that has been open for two months, I'd have to call four to five times just to see what's going on. I had multiple reps. One said he'll call me back but I never got a call back. And then, finally, the one gal said she'd call me back and that I should not worry about it. Her supervisor called me back and that was when the ball started rolling. I'm very patient about it because I have no reason to get upset but it can get frustrating at times.

I had a series of broken stuff in my house. I came back from vacation and everything was broken. I had claims for my dryer, my water heater, my AC and my stove in the same week. I don't know if the electricity went off and something happened. But Home Shield came through for me. I got everything fixed with no hassle and I was really satisfied. So I've recommended them to a lot of people. I have a friend in North Carolina who's having a really hard time with her warranty. I told her to seriously consider Home Shield.

When I made the request, I had not set up the account online so I had to go in and they sent me the link. Once I had that link and I've set up my account on the initial login, filing the claim was very easy to do. If I was to do it on the phone, it’s done but it's too time-consuming. I would have to go through a whole different other stuff like pressing this then pressing that. Whereas when they already have my account online, I just go and make the request, and it's done.

The one who repaired my dryer was a really great guy. He was professional and he explained everything to me. Within two hours, he had it repaired and the dryer is working great now. The water heater took a little bit longer because my unit was so old and they had to wait. I had to replace some parts but the water heater was over 20 years so they don't make those anymore. I had to pay them to switch whatever they needed to switch in there. The guys who did the water heater were great though. The water is so nice and hot now. Two people can bathe in two different bathrooms and have hot water. And we still have hot water for washing. Before, we couldn't turn on the washing machine.

As for my stove, I liked it but it was so old. I was told parts for the stove weren't made anymore so we had to get a brand-new one. It was coming up on a holiday and I said I needed to cook because I had a family in town. Home Shield told me I could purchase one and they would reimburse me, which was really great. I went and purchased a stove, which I loved, and they reimbursed me my money. So that happened really great. The AC is working great too. The guy explained what he did up there and I figured what he was talking about.

In fact, all of the contractors were really good. I only had one bad experience and that was way back in the first call that I made with American Home Shield. I was pissed but Home Shield came through. And it wasn't them. It was the service person they sent out. The water heater was leaking back then and the service person told me they couldn't come until a week. But it was cold at the time so I called my friend who is a plumber and he came out with no charge. But then it started leaking again so I had to call back. Home Shield did their best though. When I called them and said the person never came, the lady said that if I gave our receipt, she was willing to reimburse me for the service I paid. So Home Shield had always been good. And since then, I've never had a problem.

It was a lesson learned also. Don't assume that the service provider will call Home Shield. You need to follow back up with Home Shield, call them back and say if your kids are sick. They would take care of it and expedite it for you. When my AC went out, my mom was visiting. She has asthma and it was hot in Virginia at the time. All I use is central air so they expedited the service person to come out. That was really great. I really like Home Shield's service. When you call for your services, you get help.

The leaderboard on my washing machine was broken and the tech changed it. He ran his diagnostic tests and knew exactly what the problem was.

On the third time that they had to be here, I was at work and they told me they would give me 30 minutes to get here. He also changed my garbage disposal and was done within 15 minutes. He put it in the box, put the new one out and took the trash with him. They're very neat and don't make a mess. One guy had booties on his boots so I didn't have to clean up a mess either.

For the most part, I've been very successful and happy with the service that AHS has provided me. I also have options on how I wanna pay my deductible whether or not I want it to come out of my checking account, debit account or put on credit card. But they don't provide weekend services and if I could change anything, I would like to do Saturday services at times but it's understandable as it costs more for that. Both of the issues have been fixed and I've had nothing but a great experience.

We use the microwave a lot and when we had a problem with it, we had to do everything on the gas stove like warming the milk early in the morning. So that was a problem. Aside from that, the dishwasher door was also not latching properly. I submitted the claim online and the site is very easy, user-friendly and very helpful. It has all the information – what I can combine into one ticket, what I can undo and whatever reason that I cannot put things in the same ticket. But sometimes, I want to know what is happening right after raising the ticket. The vendor would say he might not be able to fix it within 24 hours and that it might take three to four days. If there is an online chat, it would be better.

The payment is also very high compared to other competitors. It’s a bit expensive so at least for the existing customer, it would be better if we get some discount. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield because the contractors that we get through them are professional and more experienced guys. Usually, contractors don’t have all the equipment they need to fix right away. So they would come back again within one or two days. But the contractors we had were very helpful and nice. Also, there won’t be any hassles in submitting the tickets with American Home Shield. They helped fix the dishwasher and the microwave is also working properly now.

After waiting 3 hours for plumber inside the 4 hour window, I was told my contract did not cover foreign objects and therefore I would have to pay out of pocket to fix problem. Also, I wanted my worn out bathtub knobs replaced, but the plumber would not do that because there were parts missing. He said all the parts have to be present in order to replace them. That made no sense because he would throw the parts away anyway. Just terrible. STAY AWAY!!

Our oven, a combination microwave and convection model by Bosch, stopped working in June. There were two problems that developed in rapid succession: The microwave doesn't heat and the control panel on the convection oven has shorted out and needs to be replaced. At first everything seemed to be on track, a technician came, evaluated the problem, ordered spare parts and then returned to fix the oven. However, when the spare part for the microwave didn't work, the technician said he didn't think that it could be repaired, and as a result the entire unit would have to be replaced.

Before moving forward, AHS required a second opinion. First one technician came out, only to say that his company didn't service Bosch equipment, and then a second came out and said the same thing. Each time I needed to follow up with AHS to make sure they received the reports from the technician that would enable them to move forward. We recently had a fourth technician come out, after having confirmed in advance that indeed his company services Bosch equipment. I have just been told now by AHS that the report from this last technician is that because the unit is a combination unit, they cannot service it.

Following up with AHS to make sure that they move to the next step has taken 1-2 weeks each time the baton was passed to a new technician. It has now been three months since the oven broke down, and while we did have a vacation away from home for two weeks, we've been living without microwave or oven all summer. AHS's bureaucratic processes and lack of follow-up to move things forward has contributed to the delay, and it's clear that their stable of technicians doesn't include the necessary coverage. If I don't see proactive action on AHS's part in the next week to resolve the issue, I'm going to cancel my plan and find something else. From what I have seen so far, AHS's service is not worth the cost of the monthly premium.

We bought a house and got us a AHS home warranty. As they advertise the following: It's a one-year service agreement that covers the repair or replacement of many major home system components and appliances that typically break down over time due to normal wear and tear, gain confidence and comfort knowing that your hard-earned investment is covered by an industry leader – No, not covered, reduce stress from potential, undetectable pre-existing conditions (like failures due to lack of maintenance and mismatched systems) they're covered! Sounds good right? Well guess what? We had some plumbing issues that all fell under above but AHS didn't want to cover anything. We had a system of mismatched old clogged up pipes that resulted into hot water delay (anywhere in the house) of 5 minutes and the water was not clear.

In short we had failure due to: Lack of maintenance, rust & corrosion, sediment, mismatched systems, improper installations, repairs or modifications. None of this came up in our inspection report so they must have been undetectable pre-existing conditions. We had 3 independent plumbers coming over and they all recommended a full repiping as the solution. But AHS didn't agree. Despite all being crystal clear to me, AHS says they won't pay for re-piping as it's not a failure and re-piping would be just an upgrade. I don't see why not getting hot water in a shower for 5 minutes and brown water is not a failure. And that replacing the improper pipeline that's a ticking time bomb anyways being an upgrade vs being necessary and actually avoiding much larger costs for AHS. Anyway, I felt I had the perfect warranty for our exact issue, but turns out I got fooled and they were no help whatsoever.

I've been paying premiums to American Home Shield for years, appreciating the security of knowing that I have someone to call for the big problems that sometimes arise as a homeowner. This week my water heater gave out. At 12 years, it had reached the end of its expected life, so I thought, "no problem, I'm covered". I placed the call to AHS, and they swiftly responded by sending a "technician" out to evaluate my situation.

The technician, Sam, confirmed what I told them on the phone, that the heater was old, corroded, and leaking. There would need to be a full replacement. Sam left at 11am, telling us that we would be getting a call from AHS about the next step, and accepting his $75 service fee. The call came at 8:21pm while I was out to dinner with my wife, when I tried to call back, I had missed the 9pm cut-off. But then I listened to the message:

"Hey this is David with your Home Warranty Company. I'm calling on a recorded line to let you know that I spoke with Sam with Aaron's plumbing regarding your water heater. He stated that the water heater is leaking water and that the tank is rusted. So the cause of failure is normal wear and tear and we need to replace the water heater. So we are replacing the water heater. We are covered for the water heater, the labor [strange pause in the message]... Um, a $250 "code upgrade" and... the permit. However there is some modifications in your contract that are not covered and they are a power [unintelligible] modification at $300 hot 'n cold modification at $149 temperature and pressure modification at $149 and that is not covered per section D4B and the estimated cost is $598 for you. If you have any questions regarding this just give us a call back at 877-489-8320. Thank you and have a wonderful day."

That's right, a company that I have paid $31.75 to every month for years wants to charge me $598 for a new water heater. For reference, the national average for a new 40-50 gallon tank water heater (I only need a 40 gal) installed is $889. If I had just put that money into a savings account, I could have several new water heaters installed. There is absolutely nothing remarkable or unusual about this job, but they have the audacity to make up a string of bogus "not covered" items which they say are not covered under section D4B of the contract.

What on earth is this "power modification" (they're just going to plug it in) and the "hot 'n cold" modification... I just want the hot thank you. This is the most vile business experience I've had in a good while, and I hope that this brief rant steers other would-be customers away from doing business with the criminals at American Home Shield.

I like the user-friendliness of the AHS website and it is easy to navigate it especially when submitting a claim. I filed a claim for my dryer that was squeaking at first then it stopped working altogether. Big Kountry Appliance Repair was the assigned contractor and they took a couple of days to come out as they were busy. When their guy came out, he didn’t call me to talk to me at all and I did not like that. I was not home but my mom was there and so he was able to fix the issue. However, my mom didn’t tell him about the other issues. So, while the dryer is working now, it's still squeaking. I wasn’t happy with the contractor person but American Home Shield is very efficient.

AllSet was the appliance contractor that American Home Shield sent and they did a great job. But they had to order parts and the repair was done a month afterwards. Still, they were polite, on time and courteous. On the other hand, the HVAC guys sucked. They were on time and initially, I thought the first guy was a good guy. He was courteous. He agreed that there was a leak but all of a sudden, he threw in the report that it was all corroded. But the coil was new two years ago. It’s not corroded. It was a warranty issue and now, it’s leaking but they won't do anything about it. The contractor was playing games and I didn’t like that. I wanted another person to come out and American Home Shield did send out a second guy. But when I told him to check for a leak, he said that he didn’t have a leak detector. It was like the B leagues of a contractor. He was not even qualified.

The experience was almost like talking to an underwriter who’s saying that they’re not gonna be able to cover something and that they don’t do this or that. There’s a leak on the AC. Even the first guy said so. But they are American Home Shield’s go-to people. So he had to find something faulty that would not be covered. I had to call my own HVAC guy because I can’t even keep my air conditioning below 83 right now. I was very unhappy with American Home Shield. I looked at some of the comments about American Home Shield and some of the people that they picked for their vendors. One of them was the HVAC company and as far as my liking of that, 50-50 would be a great average if it was in baseball, but not in business.

I was looking at my neighbor on one side and then on the other side. But I didn't see any fire on their homes and thought maybe it was in mine. I felt very scared 'cause I could smell a lot of wiring that was burning. I called the fire department and they came in and said it was my refrigerator. They disconnected the fridge, told me not to touch it and advised me to call my warranty. The tech came out and did an inspection. He told us what we needed to do by the time the part will come in and once it did, we had had no problems.

This is the second time the refrigerator has gone something on us, but it's a very cold refrigerator. The tech told me that they might come and fix it a few times but once the compressor goes out, then it will be time for me to replace the refrigerator. Overall, AHS has been very good and I will recommend them to anybody who can afford the 49.95 payment.

I told them on the phone what was wrong and they should've told me then that they couldn't cover that.

And now, I had to pay the plumber and the service charge. So AHS charged me 75 bucks and I could've saved that money by just calling a plumber. Other than that, at winter time, the heat pump would kick off but the air was still blowing cold air. I submitted a claim with AHS and things went smoothly. Everything was perfect about that claim. But I'm reluctant to call again because of that one incident with the commode and I need to look up what they cover before I call.

We purchased our warranty with AHS almost a year ago. We have never missed a monthly payment. We filed a claim for our upstairs HVAC unit on Thursday, September 20th, which is covered per our contract with AHS. We received a call on the morning of Friday, September 21st matching us with an HVAC company that was 45 minutes from our home in Raleigh. Their first available appointment was the following Monday afternoon. I expressed my preference for a company that could come out sooner, as I have two small children. The forecast predicted temperatures in the mid-high 80s for the following days, but took the appointment so that I was sure to have on while explaining to the HVAC provider that I would be calling AHS to hopefully get matched with a company that could come out sooner.

I called all day on Friday September 21st, only to be told to "call back in an hour", as AHS' system "was down" or "being upgraded". I finally got through at 6 pm on the 21st. I was informed we did not meet "the criteria" for expedited service (which is apparently at AHS' sole discretion), and there was nothing to be done, and there was "no company in Raleigh to match me with". So we waited until Monday the 24th. The HVAC technician came out at 10:00 AM. He quickly completed his assessment, told me we needed a new evaporative coil and more refrigerant, informed me he would file the information with AHS immediately, and we would hear back within 24 hours.

I waited until approximately 26 hours had passed, without hearing from AHS, and called them on Tuesday, September 25th. After being put on hold several times, I was informed it could be "up to 48 hours" before they even reviewed the HVAC technician's recommendation. I explained to them I was told 24 hours, and that nowhere in my contract did it give them 48 hours. After much pleading, I was finally called back a few hours after that, and was informed they were approving the work, but my portion would be $1380. Not having expected that (as that is the purpose of paying monthly for a warranty), I asked to briefly call my husband to confirm we were ok with moving forward. I did so, then immediately tried to call back. It took until almost 10 pm that night to get someone.

I told them we wanted to proceed, but was informed I was to go through the HVAC company to schedule the repair. They were closed by this point, so I had to call them on Wednesday, October 26th, which I did that morning. When I called, I was informed they hadn't received authorization from AHS yet. I was finally able to get that, and was informed by the HVAC company they would have to see if the evaporative coil was in stock, or if not, they would have to order it, and if they did, it would hopefully be in on Friday the 28th, and they would call me to schedule the repair. I waited until Friday, the 28th, and having heard nothing, called the HVAC company to check in on the status of the part.

When I called, they told me they had JUST received authorization from AHS, and would NOW check on the part or order it. I was informed that it was NOT in stock, and it would have to be ordered, and would take approximately a week to arrive, and it was then ANOTHER week before they had an available appointment (meaning the first available time to fix our HVAC would be Friday, October 12th, three weeks and one day after we originally filed our service request). I have explained numerous times to both AHS and the HVAC company that we have small children who are having to sleep in the heat, to no avail. I have requested another company, to no avail.

I was informed I have no option but to wait until October 12th, or accept the cash out which is far, far less than the retail value I would have to pay for the part if I engaged a private company at this point. I was also informed AHS could not get the part any sooner, because it was a Trane unit and therefore specialty (which makes no sense, as Trane is one of the most common HVAC units). At this point, it will be over THREE WEEKS from our original service request until the HVAC unit is fixed. I will not be renewing our contract with AHS, and will also not be recommending them to any friends or family in the future.

The next day a contracted AC repair company contacted me to schedule an appointment however they didn't have any openings until October 24. I didn't want to sweat it out for the next 30+ days so I called AHS. This is the frustrating part, AHS doesn't let you talk to real people to explain your problems. Their phone system is almost completely automated. We selected the finance department and finally got a real person, but that person just put us on hold indefinitely. After about 15 minutes of waiting we gave up. We are just going to pay out of pocket instead of dealing with this company.

    Original Review: Sept. 28, 2018

On 9/27/18 the temperature in Ontario CA reached to 100 degrees and my air conditioning busted and called the AHS since I have a warranty with them. I was told since it's not life-threatening temperature I will have to wait for the air conditioning company's availability. The supervisor of AHS told me that they don't send the service people immediately and have to wait for at least 24 hours before we get an answer.

Updated on 10/01/2018: My air conditioning stopped working on a very hot day, called the American Home Shield since we had warranty with them. I was told it's not life threatening temperature and they sent a technician from Thermal Control Heating and Air/Riverside California. They technician came and spent about 15 minutes and change the capacitor and left - A/C was working but after 3 hours it stopped working again. Called the tech and the AHS again... didn't hear from the AHS but got a call from the tech at Thermal Control Heating and Air and I was told they cannot come till end of the week (today's Monday) and called American Home Shield and was told that I have no other choice but to wait for the Thermal Control Heating and Air and it can take 3-5 days. REALLY!!! Left a message for Nicole ** at AHS to call me back but no response.

We had a leak and AHS came out and fixed it. Then we had a bunch of rain for three weeks every single day, so I called them again and said that it was still leaking under my house but I couldn’t be sure because it was raining. So they came out and it turned out that they completely replaced the wrong pipe. Not only was that one pipe still leaking, but so was my bathtub. Nobody had gone over there to look even though they’ve been underneath my house for five times now. So, they came out again after they found out about that and fixed the tub. They also fixed the leak that they were supposed to fix initially. Everything seems to be going fine now and we just renewed our service. The warranty comes very handy.

I have filed a few claims with AHS. My first claim was for the plumbing and the guy who came out was excellent. He fixed the problem and everything was perfect. After that, I submitted another claim and I paid for the fee but they didn’t solve the problem. The techs came and they said they couldn't cover one part but the second part was covered and they needed to replace it. But they were gonna do the basic valve for the kitchen counter and it was not even the exact same thing. They said that if I wanna buy a more expensive one, I should go buy my own and they didn’t even replace the valve.

I also have a refrigerator deal going on. The first company that AHS sent out said that the freezer needed Freon but they went, never called, and never followed up. I called AHS again and they found me another appointment. Then the guy came and even though he knew the problem, he said that he wasn't told what he should bring to fix it, so he left. I complained again and AHS sent a new company. When their tech came, he said that the freezer needed a new control board and he was gonna order the part. This house is a vacation home where we come and go to, and by the time they called me, we weren’t there anymore. They said they were gonna come to replace the control board and I told them that I was coming back to the house on the 18th. They came on that day and changed the control board.

But the control board is supposed to show the temperature from freezer side and the refrigerator side, and it is saying that the temperature was going higher, not lower. So I called the contractor that worked on it and told them that the refrigerator is not fixed. But they said they tried their best and they couldn't do anything else. I told them this refrigerator and freezer from day one had a problem. There were so many recalls and a lot of times that technicians and the manufacturer came to fix it. They changed everything in the refrigerator but still, it is not working properly. Sometimes it was working, sometimes there was an issue with fuse and sometimes it was everything.

So many times I came back to the house and everything in my freezer was melted and ruined. The contractor said that they needed to study more to see what they can do to convince the manufacturer that the refrigerator is defective. I'm leaving today, and hopefully, next time that I come back, there will be a resolution. So, I'm waiting still for AHS to take care of my problem. They should call and follow up what is going on, but they haven't.

I noticed that we started having an issue with the AC about August or September, and that was when we got the insurance with American Home Shield. My air conditioner was leaking water all over the floor and it must have started in the back because it wasn’t something that I noticed. I filed the claim and Turf Pro came and ripped out the floors and the walls because we had molds growing in the house because of the water damage. Jazz Air also came out about six times, and every time, they said that they fixed the problem, but I still continued to have water leaking.

Even though it may have gotten a little bit better, it was leaking from multiple areas, so the problem was never fixed. By the time it got to the end of October to November, it started to get cold, so the tech told me that he couldn’t work on the AC unless there was a break in the weather and that as soon as the temperature went above 65 degrees, he would come back and continue to work on the AC. I said okay and he said that he would handle it and that I didn’t have to file another claim. I contacted him every single time there was a break in the weather, but he refused to come out. Then, without my knowledge, our claim with American Home Shield expired. I didn’t realize that that was going to happen and I thought he was still in communication with them.

I didn’t have to use the AC during the winter time, but when it came time to start using the AC again, I started having the same problem. I had everything fixed, and it cost thousands of dollars. The floors and the walls were replaced, and the mold treated. We had the leaking again and it was coming up through the floor of other areas in the house, so the problem had gotten worse. AHS had me file a new claim because they said our previous claim expired. I gave the service fee and they tried to send me Jazz Air again. I told them I didn’t want the same guy who didn’t fix the problem last time. I was going back and forth with AHS over a matter of months just to get somebody to come out.

I made an appointment with the contractor that AHS gave me but they were a no show and I couldn’t get in touch with them. I called back and AHS tried to send me Jazz Air again. I said that I didn’t want Jazz Air and that I wanted somebody that I knew was gonna fix the problem. I ended up getting back in contact with the guy that didn’t show up because I couldn’t get through AHS. I had been hung up on and had been put on hold forever, and there was no response.

At that point, I got in contact with the guy myself and he ended up being a really nice guy. He felt really bad about the situation, so he came in and said he could fix the problem. The entire inside of the unit was rusted out and needed to be replaced. He said some stuff needed to be fixed, although I paid for some of the stuff the prior year out of pocket outside of the service fees to American Home Shield. We had $600 come out of pocket $600 to fix what needed to be fixed because the modifications that had to be done to replace the parts were not covered by our warranty.

We finally came to the day when we were getting the AC fixed and American Home Shield asked who was the person that fixed our AC. AHS told the contractor to do a report and to tell them what had been done. The tech said that nothing has been done, although Jazz Air filed with them saying that they replaced the unit inside the AC and billed them for $1,000. The communication between us and American Home Shield was awful. This was an entire year and I lost money out of pocket. They said they were gonna refund us one of the service fees but ended up charging us two more for absolutely no reason. They just took it right out of our bank account, so we are in the process of getting bills refunded.

Again, I had Turf Pro come out, rip out everything, and treat for molds. I still don’t have floors or the parts of my walls replaced yet because I just got the AC fixed and it's working good. We finally don’t have leaking and the mold, but it has been almost $20,000 worth of damage to the house. From the lowest level to the highest level, I tried calling corporate of AHS, but I couldn’t get anybody to call me back. I couldn’t get through to them to file a complaint or do anything in the midst of all this stuff that was going on. When I tried to call back and we got in touch with the supervisor, they would take forever to get back to us, not call us back, or not e-mail back at all. It was constant chaos with them.

We also had a few other things go down at the same time with our water heater and our refrigerator. We are still waiting to get our refrigerator fixed right now, but I couldn’t cancel with them until I got this stuff fixed because we’ve already paid so much money into them. All this stuff is going on and they are not coming through on their end of the deal. They are still taking $50 a month out of our account for our dues, so we are paying for services that we are not receiving.

My experience with American Home Shield was great. My garbage disposal wasn't working and the guy that they sent out was very nice and professional. I got a new garbage disposal. I have tried doing submitting a claim online but I'm very computer-illiterate so I have been doing it over the phone and I've been getting very quick responses from the contractors. He'd usually call back the next day and we'd set up a time.

The instances I've had with the contractors out here was for my washing machine a long, long time ago which has since been replaced, but they did good there. And then, I had problems with my refrigerator and they came out and fixed that too. And then, the garbage disposal, and the garage door. The contractors that I've had experience with were all very good. I did have some problem with one. It was with my garage door opener. I knew the problem was opener and the guy was trying to tell me that I needed a new garage door and that was what's making the opener go bad. That was about the only negative experience I've had. Overall, AHS is great. I tell everybody that they need a home warranty and I pass AHS on to them.

I just moved in and American Home Shield is the first one that helped me out with getting the ball rolling. When I was buying a house, the seller said that there were a couple of burners on the stove that weren't working. I called American Home Shield and the representative said that they were gonna have somebody look at it and that they would call me to schedule an appointment. The interaction was short and sweet, and the representative was nice. American Home Shield sent out Cooper Appliances from Bradenton and they visited to see what was wrong. The guy was polite and on a schedule so it was nice. He got here right here on time, even 10 minutes early actually, and he had a write-out of what he was gonna do. He was professional and really nice. I was really impressed. He was in and out in 10 minutes.

The Realtor had said that I would have to get a new stove and when I looked at prices of stoves, they were like $400. Also, I didn't want one because I like what we have. But the stove is from 2006 so it's over 10 years old. So I was thinking the contractor might say it's not gonna last very long. I actually asked how long he thought it would last and he said it would last a long time. He didn't think that the stove was bad at all. It was just the touch pad. The burners weren't working because the numbers on the touch pad didn't work.

He ordered a new touch pad for the stove and when he came back, he was on time as well. I could tell he had done this before. Then he installed the part in about an hour and it worked out really well. Without the touch pad working, nobody had used the stove. It's been taken care of and now, it's like a brand new stove. It looks great so I'm really happy about that. It's working great too. It was nice that that was so easy to fix. American Home Shield is good to have, just a peace of mind, and I'd recommend them. It was really easy to get in contact with them and to have that stove fixed. Plus the cost was $75 all the way around, for both visits, the part and the labor. It was a great deal. I didn't even pay the contractor money because American Home Shield had a credit card on file to charge me once they had visited.

My AC wasn’t cooling at all. I called in a claim with AHS because I didn't want to wait online and I got an immediate response. The contractor came down and checked it. He came on time and he called ahead to tell me what time he'd be here. It was the second time that he'd been around my home and both times, he did a super job. The air conditioner was fine but the coils inside the furnace had leaks. So, he went in there and sealed them. He put some type of special sealer in there, repaired it, and everything was great. As soon as he was done with it, AHS took the fees right out of my account because my bank card goes through that stuff to pay it off every month. And when they do the charge part, they take it off the next 24 hours after they do the repair.

Other than that, my refrigerator went down not too long ago and AHS was very accessible for its repair. It was very easy to call in a claim or do it online because they give you options to do it and their responses are pretty good every time. I've been with them for a little bit now and I've always recommended anybody getting a home to have the warranty already on there.

I had an air conditioning problem and American Home Shield had to replace the compressor. Then, it went out again and I had the service technician come back out. I was pleasantly surprised and extremely grateful that although the Freon had leaked out, the tech said it was their fault. The Freon was $300 but they replaced it at no cost so that was really nice. The reps are also top notch and I was pleased with the people from that service.

Also, earlier in the year, we had a trash compactor replaced. The original service technician came out and said it needed to be replaced but that was the last we saw him. I went through AHS to get the new trash compactor. They used a service company to do that and we had some issues with having taps and tiles taken out. I was a little disappointed that they weren't gonna do anything because they weren't authorized to make any adjustments or repairs to get the compactor in. We can all be picky at times and get a little disgruntled when things don't go exactly our way but overall, things have gone well with my relationship with AHS and I'm well pleased.

I got American Home Shield’s policy because our AC units were old and the last thing I wanna have to replace as soon as I moved in was a full AC unit. We got it for two years. The AC didn't go which was good, although, I wished they did because then, it would have been covered. Then recently, our air conditioner started making a lot of noise, we could hear it like running its central air. It was my first time to use my American Home Shield. The first company they sent came and looked at it. They said that it needed Freon and that would stop the noise. They gave me a ridiculous price of $185. It took some getting used to, 'cause I didn't get a phone call from American Home Shield. They just sent emails and text to update.

Apparently, AHS didn't feel good about what that company said, and told me that they would be sending out a second opinion. And so they did and the contractor was wonderful. It turned out I needed very little Freon but the AC needed to have a good cleaning which we paid for because that wasn't covered. Then, I never got reimbursed for the $10 that I was supposed to get for the Freon that was put in which was what AHS was supposed to cover. But I never pursued it because I'm not really sure how that works.

I do a lot of things automated and I was led to believe that I always have to present online when I want a service. But I wish there was a better way to speak to someone verbally because sometimes, I have certain quick questions and it's tedious to try finding the information on the website. However, it's extremely difficult to get a live person on the phone. But when I speak to them regarding the policy, they’re wonderful. But as far as minor appliance repair, the process has a lot of back and forth. Like when my microwave shorted out, it should have been covered. But then someone was to come, then I had to wait when I could just go out, buy a new one and have it easily done.

In terms of service, the contractors that came out for the air-conditioner weren't both local which was fine. I signed up of service contract with the second company that came because I felt they were very honest. Whereas with the first company, I felt like they were overcharging, and made me question how come right away the technician just thought the problem was that and wanted to charge us. So overall, even though American Home Shield’s very good, I don’t think I would ever renew even it would take a lot of money to replace things if I have to because it's just too tedious to deal with AHS.

One time, the circuit breaker wasn't working and American Home Shield had an electrician come out. The electrician checked the circuit breaker and he saw that it was connected to the water heater, and it was the water heater pump that was the problem as it was causing the circuit breaker to trip. We were charged for the electrician coming out when in actuality what we needed was a plumber. My concern was that we read in the contract that any time a service is provided, we will be charged the basic fee, even if it's not the proper contractor which we need that comes out. But other than that, the experience that we've had with AHS has been good.

I usually submit a claim by phone as that is easier, but my wife who normally files our claims may have done that online. Recently, AHS sent out a plumbing contractor and our interactions with them were positive. The plumber did everything that was necessary. After the repair, the hot water pump forces water more efficiently through the house.

We placed a service call to American Home Sheild on 8/16/2018 for repair to our Samsung washing machine. We were told a service provider would call and arrange to come out. We received call a few days later from a company called Astro Appliances. We made arrangements for the company to come out the next day. I took off from work all day since their window of time for them to come out was between noon and 5pm. We called the company and were told they had someone on the way. (This was at 4pm.) I waited, still no show.

The next day my husband gets a call that they are at our house and of course no one is home since it was scheduled the previous day. We made another appointment, which I had to take off from another day of work and they finally showed a week later. We were told the drain pump cover was broken and that they would need to order the part. We waited almost 2 weeks and finally get a call that our part is in. We schedule for them to come out (we are now at week 3). The technician comes out to repair the part and now notice there’s another part inside of the drain pump cover that is broken as well. Of course, they don’t have said part and would need to order the part.

It has been now a total of 6 weeks and we still do not have the 2nd broken part nor do we have our washer working. We have called AHS and was told basically that there is nothing we can do but wait. We have asked for a different service provider and was told we could not switch unless Astro Appliances is unable to repair it. We have called AHS several times a week, each time we call AHS calls Astro Appliances and once we were told they have no idea when the part will be in, then we were told the part should be in by the end of the week or first of next week, now we are being told the part should be in by Thursday. It is now Thursday (6 weeks later) and still no call. I have reached out to AHS asking for a manager and each time we are put on hold for at least 30 min but I hang up since I can’t continue to hold. We are beyond frustrated at this point.

I use our washer as part of my business which makes this situation even more frustrating. And let me add that until this situation, we have had good service from AHS which is why this is so disappointing. AHS should really investigate their service providers since this company has really bad reviews from many unhappy customers. This type of service seems to be the norm for Astro Appliances. We will definitely need to reconsider our relationship with AHS if this is not resolved.

When the garage door wouldn't open, I called in to file the claim. I don’t like doing it online because I wanna be able to explain what's going on. When I initially made the request, I was told the contractor wouldn't be able to come down until three or four days later. I asked if that was the earliest they had then I took it. But within the three or four days, the garage door started working so I cancelled the request. I called in and spoke to American Home Shield. But they still sent the poor guy out. He called me that morning to come out and I felt bad for him. I told him that the request had been cancelled.

But after that, the garage door started acting up again. Sometimes, it would open but then it wouldn't open all the way. I made another request and explained that they should just do it that time. When the actual guy came out, he said the issue was electrical. It had something to do with the motherboard up in the main and that was what he fixed. Everything worked out well and we're very pleased with everything.

The waiting time when phoning in a claim depends on the day I'd call which shouldn't be done on a Monday. The first time I did, we waited over three hours on the phone. If we’d stay on the line that long, they would knock us off. Then we'd call back and stay on the line but we won’t get it till the next day.

AHS owes me two visits. One was the one from San Jose that never came out. I made a San Jose report and canceled it immediately, but I was still charged $100. Then a couple of days ago, I called AHS and told them that there was a leak from a crack in the booster pump. Their contractor came out and said that the booster pumps are not covered, just the inside filtration. But American Home Shield never told me that when I called them.

The contractors that we have come to contact with were dumb. The ones in Antelope, California took three months to figure out where the leak was. My daughter, who is not a plumber, found the leak. And after the contractor said that they fixed it, I told them to put that sheetrock up the next day in case it’s still leaking and sure enough, it leaked onto the bed which ruined a mattress and the floor. I just put in hardwood floors so we had to rip up the flooring and redo half the room. They said they were giving back the fee because it took three months to fix our leak. But then they made up other excuses and said that it was because our toilet didn’t fit right so they were not going to give the fee back.

So, I had a real contractor come out, and he said, “What are they talking about?” AHS then said they got a submission from a contractor and until I get my toilet fixed right and it sits on an even ground, they weren't going to warrant my toilet ever. But there was nothing wrong with the toilet since it was brand new. I tried to contact AHS to get reimbursed for six times now and when I got a hold of them they said that they were looking into it and would call me back. But they never did. It was a $75 charge I never got back.

I submit my claims with American Home Shield over the phone. It takes a while to get somebody, which could be due to the frequency of calls but once I finally get somebody, our interactions go all right. I submitted a claim for the AC unit. The contractor did a good job. He came in, found the problem, ordered the parts, and came back when the parts came in. I’m happy with the service, and I would recommend AHS.

Navigating the American Home Shield website is simple and I submit my claims there. When my air conditioner was not working, American Home Shield was able to get a contractor out the next day. We had a very good interaction and he fixed the AC within an hour. The AC has been working fine since then. I have an older home and I've had a couple of recent incidents that I would have to use the warranty for. So, having American Home Shield's warranty is very valuable. I would highly recommend it too.

I normally file claims at American Home Shield online. I just fill out the request and then they'll call me and let me know if the request is good and that someone will be contacting me. With the plumbing and AC, the techs came in to fix the air conditioning for me. It was leaking through my ceiling and they were really good at getting it fixed and getting everything taken care of real nice. They followed through to make sure there was no issue after the fact. The tech said the leaking would keep going for another couple of days 'cause it had leaked through my installation so he couldn't stop that. They had to finish draining but within the day he said it would be gone, and it was. He followed up. Now everything's working fine with the air condition. With the plumbing, they rescheduled an appointment to come out and look at it again. I definitely recommend AHS to every woman I know, especially if they're single.

I had an air conditioner claim with American Home Shield and it took me a really long time to get somebody here to fix it. It was horrible to not have any air. Cutting Edge came out and the first time they did, they put more coolant in the AC and they said everything else was good to go. That lasted three weeks and I had to call back. Then, they said that there was a short in the unit out back and somebody else patched that up. Then two weeks later, it wasn’t cooling again and they said they had to replace a different part, which they got a few weeks later. It was a trialing summer.

They came three times and I would always ask before they left if there’s anything else they think or how long would they estimate everything working smoothly before I need to have something else done. And they would give the same kind of response every time. “This is fixed, and everything else looks fine.” Every time somebody new comes, it was inconsistent what they know and what the other person knew and I would try to keep them up to speed. Having new technicians every time is not necessarily better because I don’t know what skill level each person is operating at. The first couple guys that came out were pretty efficient, and I felt like I was getting seen as soon as they possibly could another time. But I would call back and they would say they had a part in and then I would call again a few days later and they would say they made a mistake. It was a mess. Other than that, the AC has been good so far and everything is cooling fine right now.

American Home Shield in my experience is not worth the annual cost the warranty. If I was someone new to homeownership, it would be wiser to save your money on the annual cost of the warranty. It will most likely cost less to pay for the repairs out of pocket. In four year of using AHS, I have had three claims. AHS has only covered 10% of the cost of repair? One of these claims, my homeowners picked up, which covered the majority of the cost. Don’t waste your time or money on a home warranty.

The contractor that they handed the service off to never showed and never called. It really disappoints me as I have never had any problems on anything else. I wish AHS would revamp or redo their service when it comes to plumbing because it has been very disappointing and less than stellar. The air conditioner wasn’t cooling. I called American Home Shield and they sent a contractor over and looked at it. I usually submit my claims online and it’s easy. Everything is listed. You just go and click on the problem you think you have. It doesn’t come down too specific and I just click on air conditioning and say what’s going on. I put the claim in on the 20th and the contractor was out in about two days or so. I told the contractor what I thought was happening. He said he’s gonna take a look at it and he went upstairs. He looked at the stuff in the wall, in the bedroom, and then he looked at the air conditioning. He said that the evaporator coil was leaking oil and he had to speak to the warranty company first. He called me on Tuesday to let me know how much I had to pay out of my pocket.

Everything else I have done with American Home Shield had gone well. I just purchased this house and I think a home warranty is a good idea if you buy a home because you don’t know the uncertainty that you’re gonna face. It’s been very helpful having American Home Shield because there are so many issues that my inspector didn’t notice and AHS fixed it for me.

There's one that I told AHS to not send anymore and there's one that's really personable.

Having a warranty is super valuable but American Home Shield doesn't want to spend the money and they don't want to fix the problem. It's cheaper to just keep band-aiding it because it's the same problem all the time. I'm in real estate and I used to recommend with my clients nobody but American Home Shield but I've had so many problems out of them. One time, it took us two to three days to straighten out a small problem with my uncle's and my local rep had to get involved.

Sometimes, it was hard for me to reach the contractors and for them to reach me. Mostly, it was easier to reach me by email or text. But the recent repairs that I've had have all been good. I just need to get these last couple of repairs, one of which is that I've got some drain dripping. They're little things, but they still need to get fixed.

With the last call that I had with AHS, I still haven't gotten my item fixed. My little boy accidentally flushed something down the toilet and that thing blocked it. I haven't been able to schedule the repair for that, so the toilet is still not working. It has been two weeks since that happened, but that was partly because I was working so much that I didn't know if they were calling me or not and I was also in the hospital last week. Other than that, though, my experience with AHS has been really good.

The bottom burner had gone out on the oven, so a guy came over and said that the bottom burners didn't work. I told him to order one and, two days later, he came in and replaced it. He made sure it worked. We also had a problem with the air-conditioning. It wasn't working right and it would keep tripping the breaker, so AHS sent an air-conditioning person out. He checked the whole air-conditioning and said that everything was fine. He said that I got a bad breaker, but he didn't do electrical works. AHS had to send an electrician out the next day and he replaced the two breakers, one at the unit and one at the main fuse box. It has worked fine since then.

I wanted to have the warranty because I didn't know what the status of everything that was in the house in case something was gonna break quickly. Although there is a 75$ copay, AHS has saved me money with the two things that had happened. If everything is all new, I wouldn't want it, but I bought a 20-year old home, so things are gonna start to break and it's going to be useful.

I signed back up with AHS because I had used them in the past and was not too happy with the tech from R&S in Corbin Kentucky they sent, but wanted to give them another chance to redeem themselves. They reached out to an HVAC Company called R&S out of Corbin, KY. This was a mistake. The first tech they sent said I needed a compressor so after the compressor was received about a week and a half later two techs came to my house to install it. After I waited all day that Friday. They called late Friday night and asked if they could come out the next day, Saturday. I told them I had an appointment that day but if they could complete the job before noon it would be fine. I was told they would be there around 9:00 am.

One of the techs called me Saturday morning and I told him that I had another tech check out my unit about two months prior and filled my tank up with Freon so there should be no need for additional Freon. Tech said,"Yes there should be no need". Two techs showed up at my house around 9:30 am to install the compressor. I went to the HVAC unit where they were working and informed them that I will need to leave around 12:00 pm and asked if they would be done by then. They said they should be. I went out a second time around 11:45 am to remind them that I had to leave. This is when I saw the older tech using a recovery tank. I thought they were taking some Freon out and going to reuse it since it had just been put in about two months ago.

I told them both that I had to leave, but my son was at home so once they were done they could call me and I would call my son and tell him to close the garage door. This was when I was told that I also needed a larger capacitor which they didn't have (standard small part) and that he (older tech) thinks he has one in his shop and would return to install it. This never happened. I waited two weeks to see if either R&S or AHS would contact me and neither ever did. So after I got tired of waiting I called AHS and asked about the delay and this is when they told me about the Freon charge and the additional electrical charge.

I was so upset because not only did they send the same group (R&S from Corbin, KY) out who had messed up my unit (rigged capacitors together) the year before, but when I mentioned my concerns about the cap being burnt from the soldering they did and the possibility of the heat causing wiring concerns the AHS rep. continued on about the charges and using the same group. She told me about the Freon charges and stated that I needed to pay for it and the electrical charges.

I asked for more details on the electrical and they told me I needed to call R&S because they are not given those details. Then I requested that another technician come out to look at my unit because I wasn't comfortable with the repairs and charges, but AHS told me that I needed to work something out with the HVAC company (What am I paying them for?). I asked what about my concerns for my unit and reemphasized that I was not comfortable, but I was told that they couldn't do anything and that they stand behind their technicians. You are better off saving your money on your own monthly. Keep in mind that it doesn't matter what your concerns are they will not believe you.

I put in a claim with my refrigerator. The first contractor came out. Checked it out and said the compressor was bad and they don’t replace compressors in refrigerators. Not worth the time and money to do so. They reported this to AHS and AHS closed the ticket. After not hearing from AHS, I called them, then sent out another contractor out with the same result as the first contractor. AHS asked the second contractor if they could replace the compressor and they said, "Yes but not worth parts and labor on a 17 year old refrigerator." AHS said, "Replace the compressor." Yesterday Sears shows up at the house, same results, now that’s 3 contractors.

Keep in mind we have been without a refrigerator for over a month, I paid the $100 deductible, AHS spent who knows on three contractors and still no working refrigerator. After speaking again with AHS they are going to replace the compressor with a 60 to 90 Day warranty. Now I priced the refrigerator 400-500 dollars max. Question is mathematically how much have I and AHS spent to repair a 17 year old refrigerator and is it worth it? All other transactions with AHS were very good. This transaction with the refrigerator is just wrong for me and AHS.

My AC unit wasn't cooling so I called American Home Shield. My contractor came out and spent four hours at my house, which was way overkill. He identified the problem immediately but said that American Home Shield would've wanted him to continue to dig and to find out what else was the problem. I said, “Well you already know it's the compressor” and I told him it’s still under warranty. But being a new technician, he didn't feel comfortable with his own diagnosis.

The following day, AHS sent another personnel to look at the AC. The tech was with a supervisor and they spent another hour and a half looking at the AC. They also determined that it was the compressor. They ordered a new compressor and about a week later, they showed up with a new one. So, the repair took about a week with three different visits and they charged me $400 and some dollars to extract and refill Freon. They said that the Freon wasn't covered in the contract. I asked them to send me a receipt for the Freon, but they never sent one.

I’m also dealing with another issue with AHS. They were claiming that I never paid them the $75 for the service call fee. I told them that they automatically deducted that out of my account after the first visit, and they weren't even finished with the job. So to me, that's a little bit disconcerting because I've gotten two invoices after I called them twice and spent over 30 minutes waiting for them to answer the phone. Then, this one girl said I don't have to worry about it because I won't get more invoices but it wasn't even ten days later that I got another one. There was something screwy about the whole thing but I would still keep AHS. I thought, “Who else?” and the Heating and Air Company have been out to my house twice so they’re okay.

The coil on our AC broke and it leaked all the Freon out. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent me to somebody. It was very simple and easy. I've had AHS since I purchased the house in 2013 and I like to read the reviews of the person they send to my home and when I don’t like the reviews, I request somebody else and they help me with that.

My husband was there when the contractors came and they were very nice and professional. They also took the new floors at our home into consideration. We tried to get the parts replaced, but the Freon was very expensive and the coverage for the AC only covered 10%. So for us to come out with that much money to buy the Freon, we decided to replace the whole unit ‘cause we didn’t wanna end up doing the same thing in one or two years. We also had to finance the new unit to be able to pay for it in 10 years. So that was the only downside. Other than that, everything went great.

American Home Shield is a good program, but their customer service follow up sucks. I filed a claim on my dishwasher and they did the initial job of replacing the motor in the dishwasher. However, it was making more noise than the original motor. So, I called American Home Shield, and they said they would contact the technician, and I contacted the technician myself. He was gonna come back out and recommend to replace the dishwasher. None of that ever happened and all of a sudden, the dishwasher got quieted down a bit so I let it go. It seemed to have corrected itself over the last eight weeks while I was waiting for them to get back with me.

When I submitted the claim, American Home Shield gave me a technician's phone number, and I got a hold of him, and he came out to our house and did his thing. He came out to the house before for different classes. He's a good man, on time, punctual, clean, and polite. He did a great job and he explained it. He thought that the dishwasher needed to be replaced and that was what American Home Shield was supposed to do. They are not responding back to emails and they haven't called me back. I even left a voice mail on somebody's phone.

There was also one time before when they came out to fix the air conditioner. It had a leak in the Freon. I was on travel so my wife was at home. A tech came out and fixed the Freon and charged her $150 because the Freon that American Home Shield covers is only a small amount. Two days later, it leaked again in the same area. The technician came out and charged another $150 to fix that little leak. So, when I came back, I called American Home Shield and said, "This guy should have found this all at one time. It shouldn't have been two different calls and all that stuff." American Home Shield never called back to respond. American Home Shield's follow up after they get your 100 bucks is nil. We just came from a vacation and the house was extremely hot. It was still the middle of the summer and I was having an issue with my air conditioner. I decided I needed someone to talk to right there and then so I decided to call American Home Shield instead of going online even though I'm an online person when submitting a claim. They got a technician out and when he came, I wanted to touch base and see exactly what the issue was 'cause I thought it was the same thing where we had to replace the entire unit, both inside the attic and outside, strictly because of how old it was, but that wasn't the case.

He explained and showed me how it was. He was testing to see if we had any leak for Freon and things of that nature. Maybe they just didn't want to do their job and they just wanted to sell me a new unit, which was frustrating. But he explained everything and discussed if the system stopped working within a specific amount of time, then we can call him back. It's possible that we would have to get a different unit, and that'll be covered because he already ran all the diagnostics, and the only thing that he saw was what he needed to fix.

Another thing was when I signed up, we talked about the rate for the technician to come out but I don't think we ever discussed that we were gonna have to pay the technician when he comes out as well so it was a surprise. I wasn't prepared to pay and then write another check when he got here. Other than that, they got the air conditioner fixed fairly quickly and it's still working.

We had a contractor come out, through American Home Shield, to repair our garbage disposal. The contractor was really friendly. He was able to figure out what happened real quickly and repaired it in about 20 minutes and everything was good. He was clean and I have zero problems with the job he did.

We also filed another claim online for our range and it was really easy. But I haven't heard back from them. Also what they can do is give you an area where you can explain exactly what the problem is that you're dealing with like what's broken that you need repaired and stuff like that. Otherwise, the person that comes out has no idea what might be wrong.

Nevertheless, I like the website. It's clean and easy to make claims. AHS helped out a lot of savings for us. It's a great service to have in case of any emergency, especially if you don’t have the money right away and you can't afford a high cost repair. You make small monthly payments and once something happens, you pay a little bit. They come out and fix what could be $1,000 or multi-thousand-dollar problem for less than $100.

I videotaped the problem so that if the light switch didn't show that it wasn't working, I have a video showing that it was faulty. The second electrician that came out was excellent. He fixed the light switch and he did a great job. I highly recommend him. I also submitted a claim with AHS for the washing machine. It is fine now and everything is good with it.

The drained area was too clogged up so I tried to work to get it undone with the Shop-Vac but it was too far back up, so it didn't work. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim and they responded quickly. The reps I talked to were very professional. It was frustrating that I had to pay $125 for a company to come and blow the clog out within five minutes. But the contractor was very good, quick, and considerate. Also, the unit is fine now and there have been no problems with it since the service.

They said that someone from a company would give me a call and within a couple of hours, the company called. Their tech came pretty quickly. He was polite, courteous, and professional. He's also been out here before last year for a problem with our AC unit outside and so we already had somewhat of an experience with him. Everything was great. The issue got fixed in a timely manner and it's been excellent since then. Having an American Home Shield warranty is very valuable because if something goes wrong, then you pay your little deductible and get it fixed. It's nice to be able to call one person and then they take care of everything. All you have to do is wait on a phone call from a contractor. And so, it's well worth having it.

To begin with, this service is a joke. Everything done repair wise is a band-aid fix, as replacing units are too costly and are always put to the back burner with smaller repairs. I understand covering the cost of bigger appliances are last priority, but come on. How can someone come out to a house to look at a broken unit and say its fixed when indeed it's not. I ended up replacing my entire AC system, water heater and plumbing issues I had because it was not worth dealing with Home Shield.

First time I had a plumber come by, he did absolutely nothing, walked out of my house and I was still charged for the repair, again he did absolutely nothing. Spoke to the call center and specifically asked for them not to send these contractors out to my house for future repairs if needed, and was met with "sorry, but the way our system works is... etc." Nothing but a complete waste of money. If anything, I am so glad I didn't waste my money in purchasing this warranty that was paid for by the previous owners.

As a contractor myself, I want absolutely no involvement with this company. I constantly refer people to not use this service as it is a waste of money and homeowners are much better off paying for services outright and out of pocket. Like I said, I am a contractor and I see first hand how companies get in with these warranty repair companies and listen up homeowners, don't waste your money. Keep your hard earned paycheck in the bank and away from these thieves. Save yourselves the headaches and do bother buying into this company, what a joke!

Had an big air handler leak with renters coming in just a few hours. Given the urgency and the no time to wait, decided to call HVAC I know rather than go straight to AHS and have to wait, and call AHS after to get reimbursed. The lady at AHS, "Rachel", spoke very broken English and I could not understand her very well, and asked to speak to a supervisor. She claimed I did understand but I just didn't like what she was telling me. I explained that I could not understand everything she was saying and she hung up on me. I called right back and got her again. "Rachel" did not deny hanging up on me, but once again asked for all the info on address/phone/etc. I didn't want to give it to her. Wanted to speak to supervisor. She asked why, I said, "Because I cannot understand what you're saying," and she hung up again. Not happy. I sure hope those calls were recorded for quality purposes.

When we moved into our house, we had draining problems in the shower. The techs who came here were pleasant. They've resolved the issue that AHS has tasked them to do, which were surface-type repairs. For example, with the drainage in the shower, they told us that they see hair. At that time, we've only lived in the house for a few weeks. It couldn't be hair clog as that would take time. But they just pulled out hair and told us it was resolved. A few weeks after that, our kitchen wouldn't drain. A company came out again and fixed that. It was a job well done, but it's not like they did a future investigation to see how to fix it like a quality repair.

Then now, a few weeks later, none of our toilets flush. Water is coming up through the floor, and dirty water is coming up through our showers and in bathtubs that aren't draining. There's also water coming up from the floor in the closet in my bedroom. There was water all over the floor of the bathroom that we’ve never used too.

American Home Shield makes submitting a claim easy but the problem is that I have to select one of their options, which isn't always the most right description. So, there's a fundamental issue there. Then, they’d try to resolve that one issue based on what I selected. With the case that I’m still dealing with, I called it in because I wanted to make sure they knew it’s a house-wide issue. I told them that there's water coming up and asked them if they were gonna be prepared to dig the concrete to resolve the issue. They just said they would resolve the stoppage which sounded like they were just gonna snake the line and not fix the reason why the water’s coming from the ground. They also said they won't repair any secondary issues. So now, I have to replace my carpet on my own, when I wish they have figured out the issue from before it got this bad.

We also had an exhaust fan issue in our kitchen a few months ago. AHS had an electrician, two appliance persons and a bunch of contractors come out but nobody would do it because it's a small job. AHS then told me if I wanted to get it repaired, I have to find my own contractor. It was really hard but luckily, I have a relationship with the contractor who remodelled the kitchen at our previous house. He was willing to do it, but then, when he submitted the estimate, AHS took a few weeks to review it. We just got approval last week, and so I need to schedule the guy to come and fix the unit because it takes a long time to get it resolved. Overall, I don't think American Home Shield’s actually in it to be a warranty company, but to make money, just like any other business.

I had a claim with American Home Shield a couple of years ago and it took me forever to get through and get someone. It was horrifying. At the time, my mother was 90 years old and my stepdad was 90. And my stepfather was almost put in the hospital because the repair took so long and it was really hot. I had two other requests a few years ago and it also took forever to get through to them, plus I had to wait for a service person to come. But once I got the people here to work on the problems, things went fine.

Recently, there was no cold air coming out from my air conditioning. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and I noticed that they've improved. Initially, I was reluctant to call them because of my previous experiences but I thought I'd give them a try and see what'd happen. So I called them then I made the appointment with the contractor they assigned, Austin Heating and Air. Then the contractor's people called me and they were out within a day. I was so thrilled and I could not believe it, so I told mom that AHS has changed and that she shouldn't give up. I also had a very nice and very pleasant interaction with the lady that made the appointment. She responded quickly. They also called to let me know just before the tech was to come and they really kept in touch with me, which I so appreciated.

Then the gentleman that came and helped me got the job done right away and was very polite and very helpful. He even gave me some other tips about my air conditioning. Plus, he had the part that he needed in his truck. My air conditioning unit is 18 years old and he told me that the older ones are great if the techs can fix them. All in all, it was a great fix and the AC has been working perfectly since the repair.

I am so impressed that American Home Shield has taken to heart the complaints about their claims process and fixed it. My last experience was so easy and I didn’t have to wait on anybody to call me or answer the phone. It was wonderful. Also, when I missed a phone call, American Home Shield emailed me saying they were sorry I missed it and I appreciated that. I'd recommend American Home Shield and tell my friends that they're very efficient and they get somebody out to you immediately. In fact, I have a friend who recently put in a request with her company and she said that she still haven't heard from anybody after several days. So I told her to switch to American Home Shield.

I usually submit claims with American Home Shield by phone and talking with their reps have been fine. AHS also calls me on who is supposed to be coming to my house in about two days, then there are times that it gets about a week before a contractor comes out too. My most recent claim was for the refrigerator and the washer. There was a problem with some switch in the refrigerator and there was a piece that wouldn’t allow the washer to get enough water.

One person came and when we mentioned what the problems were, he took a note of the issues. Then, another person came to put the parts. Usually, the company sends the same person to look at the issue and fix it because the same time that they did, it was fixed and then we still have the same problem and the person came out again and fixed it. But, that’s the only thing that was going on that was kinda off in my experience. Hopefully, they'd send the same person to come, look at the problem and fix it. Since the repair, the refrigerator and washer have been doing fine.

I also had an issue a year ago about my air conditioner that was not working and we called to fix it. The company that was supposed to come out showed up to look at it. A tech came back after the second day but he had no clue what he was doing there. It took two hours of back and forth, then he said that he was gonna bring a part on a certain day but he didn't. We were thinking there was a breakdown with the communication between AHS and the company because I kept calling both of them. AHS should also have some inspection with things that we need right away because being in Florida with our air conditioner dead and a 90 degrees weather, I ended up buying a portable air conditioner to put in my house from my own pocket. Finally after two weeks, somebody decided to do it and a person showed up to fix the air conditioner from that company. Nevertheless, I'm happy with American Home Shield.

For two years, we have sung the praises of AHS. They made several small problems easy to handle (even though one AC wait time was fairly frustrating). We even have two policies now. Lately, however, we have been greatly disappointed. Getting someone on the phone and keeping them on the phone (I have been repeatedly cut off after FINALLY getting a rep on the phone) resulting in a couple of hours (on average) wasted when trying to call and ask a question.

Three weeks ago we had a sewage stoppage in our home resulting in raw sewage overflowing into our finished basement. This is covered in our policy. We put in a service request, saw that they had 24 hours just to schedule the service (and several more days to come out), and made the decision to hire our own vendor who had the problem fixed within three hours. This was based on health considerations. We were dealing with sewage and couldn’t even run water to wash our hands. We needed immediate service.

American Home Shield says, "You can call and request expedited service," however when I have tried this in the past for AC issues, I was denied. So when I have human sewage seeping into my carpet, I did not want to spend 1-2 hours on hold trying to get AHS rep on the phone only to be given a scripted ‘no’ response I have gotten used to receiving from them. We have attempted to be reimbursed for the service — as it was a covered item (I didn’t expect the whole amount, but just whatever was listed as the allowable amount in the contract). They have denied our claim because we did not wait to have an approved service provider complete the work.

I believe AHS should have exceptions when it is a human health hazard to wait for service. I was greatly disappointed in this. Beyond that disappointment however (even though I call two days later to let them know we wouldn’t need their service provider as we had already hired someone to complete the service), we were STILL charged a 75.00 service call fee. The rep on the phone forgot to cancel the call. I called again to get this refunded. I again, wasted two hours on hold and being cut off to be told I would be refunded in 3-5 business days. Ten days later, no refund. We waste more time on hold to be told our refund would take 14-21 business days. Seriously?!

Maybe customer service was always sub par, but we could not be more unhappy with our experiences lately and will likely be cancelling our contracts as saving the money we have been paying them would be more cost effective. Especially considering they will use any loophole to avoid paying for a covered service. I will be informing anyone relevant to avoid this home warranty company as they do not provide the peace of mind and help they claim to.

A police report was filed with the Carbon County Police Department. AHS would not fire Jason ** their contract until there were enough complaints against him such that his rating would fall. They continued to use Jason ** even though they were aware of this crimes. AHS subsequently wanted to repair the Freon leak rather than replace it with a new contractor which violates some Clean Air Act laws. The organization has very questionable behavior.

That wasn’t automatically done right away and I had to do it myself. When the contractor came, I wasn’t here but my wife said everything was good. He explained everything. The deductible's a little high though and the Freon was covered only up to a pound. I would basically pay that without even having an insurance. If something major would’ve went wrong with it, I would’ve saved money but the insurance didn’t pay me really that much because of the high deductible. Still, my experience was easy.
