My refrigerator had ice in the back of the freezer and it wasn't keeping cold. I called American Home Shield to file a claim. The experience was excellent. The rep was awesome, and my experience with the tech was excellent as well. At first, when I heard the name of the company, I questioned it. But the tech was so professional and on point. When he arrived, I told him to call me because my bell wasn’t working. He came in and he was very pleasant. He looked at me and told me what was wrong. That gentleman was out in less than 15 minutes. That’s what I want. I don’t like anybody just sitting up in my house. When he came back, it was even better. After the repair, the freezer has been working excellently.
When I called American Home Shield to get my dryer fixed, I wanted Honesty to come back to my house but they told me that the tech who came before does not service dryers. But I wanted him for the dryer because I felt comfortable with that particular person coming in here. American Home Shield is good to go with, but I had a problem with not having a company fix everything that they actually have on their business card.

We were going out of town on a Friday and I was trying to shower but I saw that the pressure was real low. Not knowing what the reason was, we called and reported everything to American Home Shield. When we got back on Sunday, I called a guy to see if he could come by on that Monday morning and he did. He was very reliable. He came in and assessed the problem, then he called to let me know that the pump went out. He had to order the part and when he got it in, he worked on it and did a wonderful job. Once he got it all done, American Home Shield was contacted and we are hoping that they can help us out to offset the cost of the repair. They've always been there for us and very reliable. I'm glad that we got the warranty years ago because whatever we call on, they always take care of the problem for us.

American Home Shield replaced a motor and an actuator in the air conditioner that wasn't cooling at all. Navigating the website when I submitted the claim was pretty easy. After three days, the contractor, Best Heating & Cooling came. The day I submitted the request, the contractor called and said when they were gonna be coming. But there were weather issues and they weren't able to come until the day after they said they were gonna be able to come. When they came, my husband was here, and he said it was a good experience. He thought the person seemed very knowledgeable and efficient. The gentleman told him what the problem was and then proceeded to fix it. And the system worked. I'm reasonably happy, so I would recommend AHS.

To submit a claim with American Home Shield, I just go online and log in then I click what I need to have looked at and they set it up by having somebody call me. About 24 to 48 hours later, a contractor would contact me. The most recent claim I had was the microwave one. There was an issue with the door. The frame on the door had broken. The company texted me a time that they would be at the house but I wasn’t gonna be there at all and they didn’t try to coordinate a time. I tried to call and cancel but they never picked up their phone. Then I never heard from them again after that and I had somebody else do the work. My wife was home at that time and she said nobody came, and yet I got billed $75 for that, which wasn’t cool. American Home Shield said that they called the company and that somebody had come but I wasn’t home. They said that was considered a call-out.
The only other thing that concerns me sometimes is that I don’t have a pick on the contractor. I would look up reviews on the one they're sending and they would have 100 1-star reviews. A lot of people said that their refrigerator was worse after the contractor came and that the company was terrible. I just wish we had a choice. Most of the contractors have been good though and overall, I've saved a decent amount of money from having the warranty.

I have been hearing a squeaking noise from my refrigerator. Then, I got up one morning and it was gone. The person sent out by AHS replaced the thermostat, but after he got it back up, I heard the squeak again and I mentioned it to him. He said it might be the belt and then he left. The squeaking noise got worse to where it was lasting like five minutes. So I called back and the tech came out and fixed the squeaking.
Since he repaired the squeaking the second time, whatever he did then, the refrigerator’s been great. The contractor was pleasant. He was down to business, and came in and got it done, and left. I am pleased with my experience with AHS and when I mentioned it to a friend, she said that it may have cost me $50 to get my refrigerator fixed. I paid $200 because the tech came out twice. So I tell people who ask me about AHS that it is an individual decision that has to do with whether they can take the risk and come up with a bunch of money if something bad happens or if they have to pay a little bit more gradually along the way.

My online claim submission with American Home Shield was an easy experience. A good technician from Reliable Appliance called me then came out to fix the microwave that was not operating. The microwave has been working fine since then. While it would have been nice if the deductible was as little bit less, I would still recommend American Home Shield.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling my condo so I called American Home Shield out. The tech also noticed an issue with my water heater but he said he wasn't a plumber and I should have somebody look at it. I called AHS and told them I needed a plumber. They sent one from the same company who fixed my air conditioner. The plumber looked at the water heater but said he couldn't repair it because he didn't have the license to do it in a condo building. He also told me that before he could authorize a new water heater, the manager had to look at it. So he came twice before he told me he couldn't fix it.
So I called AHS again and told them what happened. I wanted to make sure they didn't charge me a service fee for a company coming in who couldn't do a repair. Then May's plumbing came and they were very good. I have gotten a new water heater and it's been working very well since. The water heater is what I use for heat, it keeps my condo warm and makes the water warm, too so it's very important. So, I'm happy. I've had very good experiences with AHS and I often recommended them to people in the building and those I work with.

Every now and then, I was noticing a little bit of water in the bottom of our washing machine. But if I hit it on spin, it would drain. So I googled that and it said that there might be a valve that was leaking because it occurs when it's not even running. I submitted the claim through the American Home Shield website, which is very simple to use. It's just giving me a place to put the model number and the serial number, as well as to describe the problem. I put all of that in there. And when you put something in on there, it's actually putting to the mind that we're passing along to the company. But the guy who came out had no idea what brand or serial number. That was all he was there for. He took a picture of the serial number and told me that once they got the part, they would get back to me. They could've done that without the call. But that's not really the website. It's more the website getting the information to the company.
On the other hand, the contractor from AAA All Brands Appliance did come out very quickly the first time. He was also back on the day that he had set. It was two days later that he was back with the part. It made me happy to get it fixed. I've only had the warranty for about two months and I've already used it twice. I chose American Home Shield over a recommendation, and 9 out of 10 of my friends and I would give the same recommendation.

My hot water heater blew out and so I filed a claim online. The representative was very informative and the contractor that American Home Shield sent out was good. The only thing was that I thought I was just gonna have a one-time charge of $100 but then there was a $40 piping charge that I was charged on. I kinda didn’t appreciate that, but it is what it is. They explained to me that a lot of times, piping and stuff like that is extra. But at the time, I didn’t know it. Other than that, they seemed to be a good company. I've only had one claim with them, so that was kind of the test to see how well they would handle everything, which they did. They ended up having to replace the hot water heater 'cause the tech couldn't repair it. It was an excellent experience.

We like the ice machine and we like to get water from our fridge so when both broke, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The internet isn’t always great where we live so it was easier to do it over the phone. From the time I made the claim, it took 20 minutes for the contractor to call to tell me that the guy would be coming out. He called and gave me a warning when he would be there. He showed up when he was scheduled to and fixed the problem. I had a great experience with AHS.

We had some leaky faucets and submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. The contractor was very professional and they were very thorough with what they were doing. Everything has been taken care of and nothing has been leaking since then. The repair allows us to use that faucet now. I am very satisfied with my experience. Having a warranty is decent and we had it ever since we've owned the house. We were with American Home Shield at the beginning then we switched off to another company, but we didn't receive the best service with the other companies and went back to American Home Shield. Other people should sign up with them.

My water was cut off and they had to come back but they were able to do something to make it work until they did the big job. It only affected me a few hours. If you’re buying a house and you want a warranty, you should use American Home Shield. When we were doing a rekey of our house, I called in a claim with AHS and the lady that I talked to was pleasant. She helped me out right away and it was a pretty quick process. I was expecting it to be a little bit longer than it ended up being and it was all good. They sent out Sunrise Lock and Key and the tech who came was nice. He got to work right away and didn’t have any issues. He was also pretty quick at doing his job and finished up. After that, we had another claim for one of our air conditioners. The techs that came out didn’t have the part, so they had to come back a few days later when they got it in, and they were able to install it.

This company has no intentions of honoring their promise to fix or replace appliances in your home. They only hire repair contractors who will blame the homeowner for misuse of the appliance. You have to pay a $75 fee for their hired contractor to deny your claim. I spent thousands of dollars over 3 years and when my washing machine broke down, I was accused of overloading the machine. I am a single lady with no kids and I don't even wash comforters or anything that could be deemed as "overloading"! When I agreed to the contract, I mentioned that my washer and dryer were old but was assured that they would be covered. You are better off saving money on your own to pay for broken appliances!

These people are very difficult to reach. Whether you are trying to file a claim or check the status of existing claim. The last 3 times I’ve called wait time is over 40min. I absolutely dread the call. I was approved for a new dishwasher 2 weeks ago but I can’t reach them. You can call customer service after that 40 min wait and ask to be transferred to the “purchase dept” at which point they will say okay and it will put you on hold for another 20-30 min or you get hung up on... No matter how polite you are. Or you can call the purchase dept and hold for up to an hr. Once I’m on hold I just put my phone on speaker and listen to elevator music for an hr. I hate this company but I hear most of the others aren’t any better. If you choose this company, be prepared to have your patience tested.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Updated on 11/06/2018: On 10/22/2018 I wrote a review of AHS. On 10/23/2018 AHS replied on my review that they were very sorry to hear what happened and a social media team member would be contacting me. They also were able to put on my review that a resolution was in progress. Why are they allowed to do this? Two weeks and I haven't heard a word from them. They denied my claim and still charged me the $100.00 deductible. They make it look like they are working with me to resolve my issue yet I haven't heard a thing from them.
Original Review: Our upright freezer stopped working. Talked to a rep at AHS, told her it was an upright freezer. She referred to it as a stand alone ice maker. Didn't think anything of it until after the freezer was fixed. Got a call from AHS and was told that the freezer is not covered. Talked to a customer rep and told her that I told their rep it was an upright freezer and she put the order for service in. How can you tell me after the service that it is not covered. Rep didn't seem to care or want to try to make this right. I've been with AHS for years and when I needed them they didn't come through. This is after having trouble with my microwave several months ago and the same sort of thing happened. After three visits from the tech it still had intermittent problems. They wouldn't do anything for us. Had to pay for a new microwave ourselves. CANCELED my insurance after paying for years.

American Home Shield puts on the website that they are open 24/7, but when you call them for an issue on weekend, nobody answers the phone. It seems like they should have put out there that they open Monday through Friday during business hours. I remember I called one time on a late Friday night and nobody answered until that Monday. Other than that, AHS is great. The water heater was broken so I made a quick call to them. They responded within 24 hours and scheduled an appointment. A tech from C&P Plumbing came and saw what the issue was. He was great, polite, and very professional and he answered all my questions. They said the water heater had to be replaced. I had to pay my deductible and they replaced the water heater.

I usually call in to American Home Shield to submit a claim and over the last four years, about one or two claims a year, I've been on hold for at least six hours. The previous time I submitted a claim, their contractor fixed the AC back on the hottest day of the summer. And then when it came time to utilize the furnace, there were a few things that weren't attached properly from the AC. So, the technician acknowledged that he might put on a wire, a couple of things. He said that they wouldn't have noticed just checking the AC and not checking the furnace. And he fixed it right up. This last time, somebody answered the phone quickly and saw that we had had somebody recently out for the AC. I called and got in touch with the worker again. However, it took two weeks for that person to have an opening. It was the furnace part of the AC central air. We were in the first cold snap and didn't have heat for two weeks.
To my knowledge, we did not have to pay this time because it was a completion or a rework within 60 days. However, they could get better people considering they had to come back and fix their own mess up. Usually, the contractors that AHS work with are not people we'd like to have come back out. 100% of the time they don't do a very good job. We've contracted out because they couldn't find somebody and we told them, "We're not taking that person or that person back." But after another three or four hours of being on hold, they would generally cover it. I do recommend American Home Shield with the warning of "Be prepared to wait on line or between on hold." AHS costs a little more but the coverage is better.

I had an air-conditioning repair and the gentleman who came was excellent. I really liked him. He put some Freon in my units, which AHS only covered $10 of the cost and I paid most of it. Then shortly after he came, I had the problem all over again. So I called up AHS and since I didn't wanna pay a co-pay again, I told them that it wasn't an effective repair so I didn't wanna have to pay for another charge. So they arranged for the gentleman to come right back over again with no charge, and I appreciated that.
So far, everything's been going well with AHS. Most of the time, I call in when I have a claim and the reps I talked to have been great. But the time it takes to get a contractor out depends on the claim. On one instance, it took a week before a contractor came out. And on another instance, the tech was out the next day. But when the contractors came out, they explained the diagnosis, then somebody would go through everything, make the repairs, and explain it to me. So, we had a pretty in-depth dialogue. Overall, it's a valuable asset to have to protect your systems with a home warranty and I would recommend AHS.

There were a couple of electrical outlets in the kitchen that suddenly were not working and in order to get them fixed, I had one technician come out through AHS. We were gonna have to rip the wall out but I said there has gotta be a better way. It was weird because he first said he could just drop a line down from the attic, just bypass it, put a new line down and make it real simple. But when I called AHS, the woman on the phone looked through the report and said it changed and they couldn’t do it that way. But she was very professional and afterwards, I had a second opinion and AHS sent a guy from a different electrical company.
The second contractor was very professional and very knowledgeable. He tried to figure what possibly could be the problem. There were wires some place that wasn’t right, but he was able to find it. He said maybe he had more experience than the first guy. He has a little bit better idea of maybe where to look for possible problems before ripping out any walls. He was here for an hour and took care of the whole set without ripping any walls, and that was great.
I’m entitled to a second opinion at their cost, and I didn’t have to pay more for it. It was taken cared of and it was great. I also had another problem with a heat duct that was dislodged from the heater. The guy AHS sent came out and he had to go under the house. It was actually broken in two places, and it was an easy fix. It cost me $75, but if it were on my own and I had to call somebody, nobody's gonna go under the house like that for less than $500. For somebody who’s not handy around the house, AHS is a really good thing. I would strongly recommend it. It’s about $60 a month that I pay to American Home Shield, which is quite a bit, but it’s paid for itself in my case.

The only problem that I have with American Home Shield is the people that they got. I had no heat at all and had to have my heat pump fixed. It was a constant back and forth between AHS and the company because neither one of them wanted to fix my heat pump because my heat pump was an old one. And American Home Shield didn't want to put a new one in because it's old. They wanted to try to fix it first, which I understood but it was just back and forth. I let someone from Better Heating & Cooling in Appalachia, Virginia go under my house. But they left the crawl space open and it caused every pipe under my house to burst and the inside, as well.
The very first time I turned my air conditioner on when it got hot, it didn't work, indoor unit or outdoor unit. I called American Home Shield and told them I didn't have any air. They said they would send Better Heating & Cooling back down here since they were the ones that they had had in here before. Within a day, I got a phone call from American Home Shield and they said the company was too busy to come and work on my units. So they were gonna send a different company, which was Custom Heating & Cooling.
The best thing about it was when I was first contacted by Better Heating & Cooling, it took them three or four days to call me, set up an appointment for them to come and just look at my heat pump, and tell me what was wrong with it in the beginning. But it wasn't even an hour later when Custom Heating & Cooling called me and asked when would be a good time for them to come out and look at my heat pump, to make sure they could get me some air going. Then, when the guy came out, he said that it was a wonder my house had not caught on fire yet with the way the first company fixed my unit.
They finally fixed it and they ended up having to get Custom Heating & Air to come in there who was awesome and great. If they said they were gonna be here on such and such day at such and such time, I could set my watch by it. They had to come out three times to get my unit fixed. They had to put in new wiring on the inside unit and on the outside unit, they had a motor installed. But they ended up having to come back one time because they didn't have a fan and they had to order it. It took three weeks for them to get the fan in because it was a special custom fan but as soon as they got the fan in, they called me and they were over here first thing in the morning to put it in.
Then, I got the pipes done for $100 and it was supposedly for my co-pay. I called AHS and told them I shouldn't owe a co-pay because it had not been six months yet. But they said that according to their record, it had been over six months. I said they did not finish working on my heat pump until January. So my contract with them, as far as them handing my keys to me, should start on that day in January. Not the day that they contracted the contractor to. Also, I had to redo all the indoor plumbing and the new shower, all new shower heads, new kitchen faucets, and all new bathroom faucets and I couldn't get into my house until the first of January. That was me paying out of pocket because I forgot that I had American Home Shield because I had such a bad experience with the guys that worked on my heat pumps. It was a big mess.

My stove and refrigerator went out. I called American Home Shield and the reps I talked to were very professional. The company that was then sent to me was really nice and helpful and they knew what they were doing. However, I haven't received my reimbursement yet. One day I called AHS. They were so busy and I was put on hold. I was told that they would call me back, but they didn't. I don't know what they expect me to do without an oven. The tech was great and the freezer has been working fine since the repair. There's no more frost. I was pretty happy with my experience. However, I was very disappointed with the people that AHS sent out for my air conditioner. The contractor made a schedule with me and then they canceled it out. They made it to another day and this was during the hottest time we had going on. AHS might wanna try to get a major company instead of a mom-and-pop.

Everybody from American Home Shield has been really good. Less than a month ago, our air conditioning was low on charge and AHS sent a gentleman out to recharge it. He put a dye in it and said he couldn't do anything until after the dye has gone through. It was two and a half pounds of refrigerant and AHS would only cover $10 for each pound and that was almost $250 in charges. I don't wanna get hit with another $250 of refrigerant charge so now that the dye is in there, we'll have to ask somebody to come out and inspect it to see where it's leaking.
Last Friday, I've also had the furnace worked on. I called that morning and I had somebody out that afternoon and the furnace was fixed. I'm very, very pleased with AHS and the service companies that they send out. They were very professional and they treated me with love. However, the plumber was not so good. I had to redo the stuff that they did since I'm very handy and I do know a lot about refrigeration. Nonetheless, I'm glad I have AHS.

I then asked my brother about it and he said that many houses have burned down because of that. So, I called American Home Shield to get it looked into. The contractors came out and fixed it. It was the first time I've ever used AHS. I was with another company before, but I'm happier with AHS. They come out faster and respond well. Everything has been great with the contractors and I haven't had any problems with them. I called to submit a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator because I was out. But it took almost an hour to get through and I just left the phone on speaker mode. It took way too long to get through when I called, so I felt like they didn’t want me to call and instead they wanted me to go online, but I didn’t have the ability to do that. The rep that I eventually talked to was a little hard to understand because he had a very heavy accent, but outside of that he was very nice. Afterwards, a contractor was sent out and the technician worked on the ref. They're supposed to be out there today, so I’m not quite sure if the work has been completed. In the past, the technicians that came out to our home were very nice. One time, the tech had to come back for the AC but had a good attitude about it.

My kids were in the spa over the weekend and it was working great. AHS's service has been really good, although I typically have to put in an extra phone call or two to really find out what’s going on. They have to be proactive. Nobody likes to be put on hold for a while. Nonetheless, the end result was very positive and a lot of our claims have been good. We also had a claim for our dishwasher that was leaking and it was repaired immediately.

I had a good experience with one guy who was sent by American Home Shield for the pool. He fixed the top of the filter and that was okay. And then another guy came out and fixed my gas stove. It had an ignited switch that he had to replace. All those were good, although I think the $75 charge is excessive. I had an issue with the pool where AHS said they didn’t cover, which I thought was rotten. They only covered the filter pump, but not the cleaning pump. So I just got somebody else to do it. If people are gonna have a warranty on their pool stuff, the warranty covers a number of things. But the warranty with AHS was not sufficient enough. Other than that, my experience with AHS has been good so far.

The garage door wasn’t going up and down and the motor in it was bad. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online, but there was no response, so I called it in. However, there was still no response. My account has messed up since we got AHS. I bought a warranty when we bought the house and the sellers also previously bought a warranty, so AHS was double-paid. We got the more expensive warranty, so if anything goes wrong in the house, it will be covered. I paid for one service fee, but they billed me for two. I owe the service fee, but I'm not gonna pay the other account until they get everything straight. I eventually got this to a manager and she was wonderful and awesome. She was excellent, but I had to go through all the many reps weeks and weeks at a time, so my garage was out of service for about a month.
The garbage disposal also wouldn’t work and there was a bad odor in the house. We were in the house for about two months with that odor and we were not getting anybody out to repair because AHS was pulling up the sellers’ warranty and kept saying that I wasn’t covered. My warranty covers electric and the plumbing, but AHS was saying I just had the basic and that none of those were covered, so I couldn’t get through anybody, but I kept telling them no. I called Stewart Title Company and they said that I was correct. I ended up having to get my contract. When Stewart Title called the AHS area manager, she finally got it straight, but it still took them a while. They kept the sellers’ contract and converted me over to the sellers’ contract, but they still gave me all of my benefits. It was a big old mess.
The technicians who did the garage and the garage disposal were wonderful. They were in and out in five minutes top. They were excellent, but AHS customer service was so rude and they weren't very professional at all. The customer reps need more training because even when I had to call back to check on the process, they still had no idea. They were saying, "You don’t have this and that.” Even after the management had corrected it, it was still big because I ended up having to call back a month later because my air conditioner was out. That was a headache. We didn’t have air conditioner for about four days and the temperature in our house was around 98 degrees. And once again, the manager got me out of it. She reimbursed me for the fans and stuff that I had purchased. But once the people came out, the service was wonderful and the manager that the area manager turned me over to was awesome.

Everybody's busy so I understand but GE Appliances came out twice and it took the technician a week on both. The issue wasn't resolved the first time but both of the guys who came out were wonderful. On this last visit, the repair was sufficient and the technician did a good job. He did a replacement and that warranty worked for my advantage. We purchased a home in Santa Cruz CA, bought a home warranty through American Home Shield thinking we would be protected if something goes wrong in the next year. We bought the warranty with the addition of roof, well and septic so we paid a lot for this protection plan. First the roof warranty is via another company who comes and inspects the roof, writes a report and gives you a list of repairs to do, on a fairly new roof mind you. Gave us a quote of repairs to be done of $2400 and if we didn’t go forward and fix it the roof warranty which we paid upfront to American Home Shield would be void.
Then we had a problem with the well pump. Called AHS to send an electrician to fix the problem. Everything is done in a delayed process meaning you’ll be out of electricity or water for over 24 hrs before anyone will come out. The electrician came out, we had to pay $75 for the visit, said it was a well issue. He wrote a report for AHS to send someone to repair the well pump. AHS never called to send a well technician so I called them. They sent a text with the well company's name and number saying someone from that company would call to schedule an appointment. No one did so I called the company Tom’s Well Service. They said they received the request to come out but that AHS doesn’t pay them that’s why they didn’t respond to the repair order.
I called AHS. Told them what was happening and they said, "That’s not true. We will get someone else to do the repair." They don’t pay that’s why no company will come out to make the repairs. I’ve called AHS several times during the last 4 months to send someone else to see why the booster pump turns off. They give me the runaround never fixing the issue. This is a terrible company. They took our money $750 for the year plus $75 for each visit and haven’t done anything to fix the problem. I’ve told my realtor and the word will spread. This company needs to be shut down and homeowners need to be refunded the money they paid!!!

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, they charge the flat $100 fee just to send somebody out. We haven't had anything come back to us in terms of other expenses other than the monthly premiums and the flat service fee. So far, we've had them come out and do work on the air conditioner and recently, the plumbing issue. That's two separate things and there are no paper claims. You call in and they send somebody out. They automatically debit the same account that the monthly premium has come out of and it's just a phone call or going online to place the service call. For the plumbing issue, it turned out to be a clog. But it was leaking out up under the carpeted floor on the other side of the wall. I was afraid it was a broken pipe or something more serious, but the guy sent out by AHS just plunged it and broke the clog loose.
For the air conditioning issue we had, the outfit that they sent to us to do the air conditioner first time, refused to take credit card or check and would only take cash money. That sounded suspicious and we didn’t have it. So, it took us about a month to put that kind of money aside to do it. Worse, we had to go without air conditioning in the heat and we had elderly people in the house. We even begged AHS to give us a different outfit, one that takes credit card. They said no. They explained that once they have assigned it to one and they’ve come out to evaluate the problem, that’s who has to do it, and they can't force them to take the cash.
So they didn't work with us on that. And my in-laws who live with me and who are elderly with compromised health problems really were challenged by that. We went and bought a window unit ‘cause that was able to do with a credit card and tried to keep at least their space downstairs comfortable enough until we could get the money for the refrigerant. Then the guys came out and put the refrigerant in. They didn't stay to make sure the house cooled down. They stuck it in and left, and then, didn’t do any follow-ups to call and see how we made out.
Two hours later, we were still hot as ever. And again, I had to fight with AHS to send a different outfit out. I don’t trust those guys. I don’t know what they did. I have no way to verify that they even put the refrigerant in. And all I knew was we didn’t have a cool house yet. It took some doing and some fighting, and I'm talking about over a course of another month before we finally got for them to send somebody else out.
The second outfit they sent out was phenomenal, very professional, came right out, and told us the problem was the first outfit put in too much refrigerant and then it froze my system up. Plus, the first outfit hadn’t bothered to hose out the compressor unit outside and the intake from grass clippings. So this guy hosed that out and then did whatever he did with the refrigerant. He told us not to run the air conditioner very high at first. They gave the refrigerant some of the time to burn off and then, we ran it the rest of early spring and by the end of summer, we stopped using it with our first frost. The air conditioner ran fine all summer though and the guy who did it called us the next day to make sure everything was still running as it should be and that we were comfortable.
In general, AHS didn't give an avenue to lodge a complaint, and that was based on my problem with trying to deal with the first AC guy. When I asked to talk to somebody in the complaints department, they said they have no complaints department. I even asked for a call back from the supervisor since I had an escalation issue but they said no. It seems they only deal with the vendors and if the vendor has a problem with the consumer and refuses to go out, then they'll send a second guy out. And that bothered me as I told them there was a health issue with elderly, and they didn’t seem at all concerned. Also, I did some research when we started having problems and compared them to the other outfits that are out. It was all the same kind of stuff across the board. So the name of the game is avoid paying the claims if you can until they stay in the black.

The AC has been worked on previously. There may have been more than one issue with the unit and multiple inquiries, but it was Clifton Heating that identified that the component was not doing what it was supposed to do and they were the ones who replaced it through American Home Shield. I understood that contractually, when they replaced the part, that was my responsibility, the compressor or the component that they replaced was supposed to last a long time. But when they came back, they had to replace it again and that I had to pay for the Freon again. They said American Home Shield only covers up to a certain amount and because the issue was more than 60 or 90 days, I needed to pay for the additional cost of Freon beyond the minimum allowance and was $800, which was a substantial amount of money.
I spoke to many people at American Home Shield and I was very disappointed because no one, not even the installer or the technician, could tell me that the component that was replaced was supposed to fail in less than a year. I didn’t mind paying for it once but I did mind paying for it twice because I had the same complaint. They did the repair, and eight months later, whatever they installed was not functioning. Then they gave the reason to American Home Shield that the component needed to be replaced. But nobody was willing to say that it was a manufacturer's defect and I had no idea either. And because it was outside that window where the Freon would be covered as problematic, they didn’t cover it and I didn’t like that. That was really petty.
The technician and American Home Shield, as the service provider, should negotiate with the manufacturer about their defective parts on behalf of the customer. I don’t have the technical expertise, but it seemed like no matter what the outcome would be, I was gonna get screwed. Also, everybody at AHS customer service had a script and they pulled it up on the screen when I talked to them. That was a terrible experience, not because they were bad people but because they were limited in scope no matter who I spoke to with regard to making what would appear to be a logical decision because nobody wants to get fired for making the wrong one.
I had a subsequent issue where I also dealt with the customer service at AHS and it had to do with my washing machine. The contractor came back and decided that they had to replace the unit. I looked at the items that were being offered and I said I would like to upgrade that. They gave me permission to do that but I had to pay the $100 price difference, which I was very willing to pay. However, they wanted me to pay $500 more to get the upgrade when the whole unit only was $700. It made no sense. They said it was because they had a bulk contractual discount. I called AHS and got a customer service person on the phone who was very helpful. He said they couldn’t give me the one I wanted, but the one that was comparable was also $100 more. They gave me that and there was no additional charge, so the problem was resolved amicably. But to get to that was like root canal at the dentist's office.
So when you deal with AHS customer service, it’s not that they don’t wanna help you. It’s just that they may not be empowered to do what’s logical and therefore, they’re being guided by the script that they’re reading on the screen or the contract. I’ve had this happen numerous times with them to the point where I’m looking at other home programs. I’m always comparing but I don’t know if other companies would be any better and that’s the problem. If someone else reached out to me for comparable pricing and made me feel more comfortable with these issues, I would switch. I don’t consider American Home Shield outstanding and they won’t gain my loyalty for the way they've handled customer service. It was a painful process overall.

I went online to submit a claim on a plumbing issue to American Home Shield and their website was user-friendly. However, the contractor was reluctant since he had to cut a hole in my ceiling. I told him it was better than the water accumulating and after I said it was okay for him to cut the hole, he was fine and he fixed it. I had to call again to get somebody out to fix the hole and it took four phone calls. The representatives I was talking to were just being lazy. When I finally got someone to follow through, it turned out there weren’t a lot of contractors that would come out to this location so the other representatives weren’t following through all the way to the end. They were just saying nobody will come out and then that was it.
Somebody finally came out after two weeks and he was able to repair the sheet rack but we had to go back and do the painting and the texture on our own. Overall, I was satisfied because it finally got fixed completely and the last lady I spoke to was amazing. She probably spent an hour looking for someone to come out to fix the hole. AHS is worth it if you're buying a new home.

I had a lot of leaking issues. I had a bad faucet in the kitchen, the shower faucet was leaking, and the commode would leak sporadically. I filed the claim to American Home Shield and coming from the fact I didn’t have a water pressure regulator valve, it wasn’t covered. But other than that, it's not the first time I used AHS and I'm really happy with the service. I usually submit my claims online and I get an instant response. They tell me who's the contractor and they usually contact by that same day or the next. I'd get a call from whoever they contracted it out to schedule an appointment. Most of their contractors are pretty conscientious. Their contractor might be in a bad mood, but that comes with the territory. On the work, they usually do a good job.

We had a slab leak which resulted in some water damage in the kitchen. I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I then got a text that Blue Star would be contacting me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Their techs came out and they were prompt in everything they did. They did a good job and I was happy with them. However, they were very expensive. We were talking to my home insurance adjuster and she said that compared to many other claims similar to mine, Blue Star charges much more than most other companies. My home insurance adjuster also said that they always have to try to work things with Blue Star and bring the price down. So, we were kinda thrown into a situation that we didn't have a lot of information about the companies ahead of time and in the end, we got overcharged and there was nothing we could do about it.
Additionally, Blue Star recommended a water medication company and they were terrible, so we were not happy with that. We've been back and forth with them a lot too. American Home Shield's end of it was good, though, because they paid a good chunk of the cost. But, we paid our deductible plus we still had to repay to get the kitchen finished and even more out of pocket just because of where it started from.

My wife's father was the one who told us to get the warranty with American Home Shield, and I don't regret it. I had multiple issues with appliances and American Home Shield fixed them all. Everything works now. The contractors who came out were decent guys too. They were all on time and they knew what they were doing. American Home Shield actually comes through unlike a lot of other insurance companies. You pay them for a long time and then when something goes wrong, they come up with a reason on why they don't need to pay. I didn't have that with American Home Shield. Everything worked out. The most recent claim was for the ice machine and when I called them, they told me what they expected. The next thing I knew, I had somebody show up. They fixed what they needed to fix and all I had to pay was $75. Better have American Home Shield. Otherwise, you're gonna be in trouble when you spend a lot of money that you shouldn't.

We have a little water leak in one of the pipes and when I called to submit a claim to American Home Shield, the reps were nice, friendly and tried to help in every way. The contractor was polite and respectful. When I asked for a receipt, he told me he could write something down for me by hand but he could not give me anything because it was under warranty. Since then, everything has been fine and we haven’t had any trouble. I checked on it last week to see if I had any water leaking where it was fixed and now, everything looks good. Having AHS gives me peace of mind because you never know when something is gonna break. It’s another payment coming up every month but it’s one less worry if it is a big payment. There was an issue with the ice maker in our freezer and I submitted the claim by phone. It's quicker that way and everything was great. But it took two weeks to get the part. Not having the ice maker, I was really surprised how much ice we use on a daily basis. It's crazy. So I had to buy ice, which is not a huge deal. But this company is a major appliance repair company. You would think they would have parts on hand. But they had to actually order it then after it arrived, they had to get us on the schedule. So we were down for more than three weeks.
It bummed me out that it took that long to get the part and get it put in. But I don't have any complaints, really. The service and the people were great. The contractor was very courteous and the gentleman who came to our home was fantastic. He was cordial and very nice. This is my second time with American Home Shield. When I originally bought this home, the owners supplied the AHS warranty. Although I was with Home Warranty of America in my previous house, I gave AHS an opportunity but they failed miserably so I left them. I went back to Home Warranty and stuck with them, but their service has become crap as well, so I gave AHS another chance.
We had some issues with our clothes washer recently. It was making a strange, grinding noise during the wash cycle. So, we called AHS to put in a claim and they sent out a contractor. The technician showed up and diagnosed the problem. The guy had a good disposition and explained to me what was wrong. There was a problem that I didn’t cover when I filed the claim with AHS and he added that to the claim. He even took the time out to call and tell me to call him if I haven’t heard anything from AHS and he would give them a call. In addition, he did another follow-up to make sure that I got taken care of. That was above and beyond, so the contractor was definitely a good one.
The contractor followed up and said that they’ve told AHS that I needed three parts, but two of these were no longer being produced, so AHS would contact me about giving me a replacement washer. The technician was great and dealing with the contractor was a pleasant experience. They couldn’t fix the washing machine, so they had to buy another one and that was fine. From the time the contractor put in their recommendation for a replacement and I agreed to it, another washer was delivered in less than a week.
It was in the window, though, going from the technician to closing out the claim where the problem occurred. The fault was with AHS and their call center was horrible. I gave AHS three weeks to contact me, but they never did, so I contacted them and called them twice. That was discouraging because when I called in, I was on hold for an hour and that's definitely a long amount of time to be on hold waiting. They transferred me to the product replacement team, then the call was dropped on their part, so I had to restart that cycle again and it took another hour.
They gave me the option to have a callback, which I did. When the young lady called me back, she said that they were just waiting for somebody in another department to notate in my file and if that didn’t happen, they would be contacting me in a couple of days. So, I waited another couple of days, then I repeated the process till I finally got somebody. They apologized and said that they were trying to work on their system, but that’s ridiculous. AHS is a good company and their rates are decent and in line with the industry’s rates. Also, the service was excellent. But you've gotta be prepared to wait to speak to someone to resolve the claim.

He fixed what needed to be fixed and it took a few days longer than what I would have preferred, but it wasn’t an emergency, so it was no big deal. If it was something that I needed right away, filing the claim online doesn’t seem like it would be as fast as calling somebody, telling them you need an emergency repair, and ask them to come and fix it. My dryer was making noises. I submitted the claim online and the site was friendly. But the first time I did it, I got confused, so I had it called in. But when I did my follow up with them, I figured out how to use the online and it works fine. I did the follow up on the same appliance. I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t gonna get charged the deductible, the fee that you would pay every time they came out. That wasn’t stated until the very end. That was why I had called initially because I wasn’t sure if I was gonna get charged or not for the same appliance because I just wanted to make sure that it was just a follow-up.
The contractor was great because the sent the same person in both times and this person was very informative, told us exactly what was wrong and kept us informed. We received notifications and calls from both the vendor that they had used and from the email from American Home Shield. The appliance got fixed in two visits. The first time the contractor came, he said to let the appliance kick in a little bit and make sure that the parts get acclimated. After a week, the appliance was still making a noise. I had called them and it was probably two days before they actually came out again. The process of doing the laundry was getting delayed but other than that, it was fine because I knew that the second time around, it was a major piece that the contractor needed to order. It took a bit longer than the first time around. But the appliance is working much better now. My microwave didn't work and it buzzed in and out. Direct Appliance was sent out and they ordered parts but the parts were no longer available. I had to call for the replacement and there was a very extended wait time, 45 minutes to a hour and a half.
I try to stay positive but there could have been better customer service. American Home Shield can try to satisfy the customers as much as they can. They should listen more to the customers especially about the complaint. They listen to their contractors on their side and they mostly take the road of the contractor over the customer, which is frustrating. People make mistakes and so can a big-box company. With the microwave, we were going back and forth. What was told to me and what they said their employee told them didn’t match up. So with a little persistence, we got the situation taken care of. The guy that came out was good but I had to call them again because the air conditioner worked only for about a day. A second team came out the next day but they weren't able to get it working properly as it wasn't getting any colder. The house was over 86 degrees every single day and night, and there was no relief. So, I called them again a week later and they sent the original guy. Finally, he diagnosed that they couldn't fix the unit and it needed to be replaced. They said they were gonna order a new one and would wait for American Home Shield to give the approval. It was approved right away but it took an additional week before the unit came in. But once it got in, they installed it quickly. It got there in the morning, they were there that afternoon, and we had cold air that night. And I haven't had an issue since.
One thing that frustrated me, though, was that because the contractor was a small company, they always had to order parts instead of having them onsite. They were always delayed because if they had to order parts, they had to get American Home Shield to approve the part that was being ordered. And every time they ordered a part, it would take two to three days before the part came in. So, they are a good company but they're not great. On the other hand, American Home Shield has been great. They also have a contractor for pool that has such a bad review on Yelp. The contractor called me and told me to give them a good review. I said that they haven't even been here, but she kept arguing that they have been. I said that I was not giving them any good review. She started yelling and cursing at me. I then got a bill for $75, a fee that I have to pay.
The people that AHS deals with are very incompetent. AHS didn't care when I told them about it. I had a text message that they finally admitted that they had mistaken my address with someone else. However, AHS wants to still charge me $75 for the service that was never done. That is in dispute right now, although I haven't heard back from them. AHS took the side of the contractor. I told AHS I would take them to Small-Claims court and I would never pay the contractor the $75 because they haven't even been to my home. AHS sent a text message and said sorry. I went on Yelp and I saw that that contractor had so many bad reviews from people and people were saying that the lady yelled at them.
They also brought an electrician to fix the fan, but he could not fix it. My fan is an $800 fan, but they wanna replace it with a $60 fan. They said that the fan had five blades and they'd just replace blade by blade. They don't care what brand or what kind of fan it is. They just gave me $100 to replace the whole thing. AHS also keeps increasing my monthly fee, which was $60 and now it's $75. I'd tell someone to stay away from this company.

I'm not too thrilled with American Home Shield at this point because when my saltwater filter completely stopped having power, they said that it was covered when it's not. So, I ended up having to cover that myself. The customer service team was polite, but I'm not happy with the actual service. I was told that the saltwater filter was covered and then it took them over a week to to tell that it wasn’t. So, instead of getting my stuff fixed when I needed it to, it sat and my pool turned green, and I ended up having to buy a bunch of stuff to get it clear again. I spent almost $1,000 on that. Had I known that day, I would've just gotten it fixed. But I was still waiting and in one of the calls, I was transferred to different people and still didn’t get anywhere. I went through 10 different people when I finally got somebody that actually called me back. It was totally unreasonable.
The technician was great. He knew what the problem was right away. He said that AHS doesn't normally cover the saltwater filter. He also said that AHS wouldn’t cover saltwater for their existing customers. Only new customers would get that. At the time we got the policy, we had a saltwater pool and I told them that. From my point of view, if they upped their coverage and changed it, they should've added me on or at least called me and told me that. Apparently, I can't even do that at this point.
Same thing happened with my air conditioning system. I've had people come out to try and fix it six or seven times. They said, “Well, it's broken, but then you have to pay this and pay this.” AHS supposed to cover it and replace it if it's broken, but I ended up paying $5,000 for one system and $1,200 for the other one because they just wanna barely fix it. So far, my AC has been working way better since we replaced it. AHS was supposed to fix home systems but they covered hardly anything on the air conditioning. Nevertheless, I've had a couple of things that they have fixed. So, I'm not horribly dissatisfied with AHS, but I'm not super satisfied either.

I felt it was very important to get a home warranty when I bought my home because it's older. The air conditioner, specifically, was original with the house in 1987 and this is Arizona. I had the option of choosing several different companies but what AHS covered seemed to be the best for what was allowed in the contract for purchasing the home.
Our AC stopped blowing. I heard the compressor running but there was nothing coming out. The unit is on the roof so I couldn’t tell what was wrong, whether it was frozen up or if the blower wasn’t working, so I just shut it off. That was on a Saturday evening. I got in touched with AHS and they were pretty responsive. I was pleased. I got a call on Monday and I was hoping that someone would come over during the weekend. AHS told me who the contractor was but those guys didn’t answer their phones over the weekend. It was really hot so I went to my son’s house on a Sunday. I spent two nights there.
It wasn't until Tuesday that someone came out. I was a little disappointed in the repairman. The unit had been off since Saturday night because I was afraid that if I tried to turn it back on again, who'd know what would happen. I didn’t wanna add to any problems there. The repairman turned the unit back on after he went up. He looked at it and did whatever he did. He couldn’t find anything wrong. He said he oiled the blower and checked a few things out. He didn’t tell me what he checked out though. I would have thought he would have told me what the capacitor was doing. He also didn’t leave me any list of things that he did. He couldn’t do anything more and said that if the problem happened again, I should give him a call.
The unit has been working fine since. I was very pleased with the ability to tell AHS what I needed to be done and I let them know that I didn’t think so much of the person that they sent out. I gave them some feedback on that because I don’t have control over that with them. I'd tell someone, “If you have the opportunity, if you compare what your choices are, it's okay to go with Home Shield, but this was my experience.” I'd be honest with them.

Filing the claim to American Home Shield for my exhaust hood in the kitchen over the phone was easy to do but there were some errors made by the actual rep that took the order. When they sent out a technician for that reason, the technician thought it was an exhaust fan in a bathroom so he couldn't do anything for me. AHS responded very well to the error and they reintroduced another company to come out and take a look. However, the contractor was not well-informed and he did not know what he was talking about. He caused me a lot of headache and a lot of problem about getting it resolved because he himself, did not want to do the job, based on his comments to me. He simply said, "There's gonna be a lot of work to get this done," and he also told me that I would have to take the unit down so that he can work on it if it was approved it.
He said he'll let me know what happens and then he went and told the warranty things that weren’t true about the unit. He told them that it was a charcoal-filtered unit but I did not have charcoal filters in there to get rid of the grease. It was not a unit that pulled downdraft to and it wasn’t one that exhausted to the outside. There were filters in it and I showed him that. They were clean but he told them that the unit should pull out 100% of the grease and contaminant before it goes outside. That's what the mill filters would do and that didn’t make any sense. Yet, he insisted.
In the process of the tech telling me that I was wrong in saying that this unit would not pull out 100% of the grease, he was smiling and looking at me at the time, and I knew then he didn’t want to do the job. But that in itself created a problem for me on the delays and having to go through the process of repealing it which was totally unnecessary had he knew what he was talking about. I got the results through the warranty's claims department which helped me out a lot because I had to send them pictures. But I had to go through a big mess which delayed the repair tremendously.
Also, when I told the AHS rep about how old the system was, that the guy was wrong in what he was saying and that I told him about the 100% exhaust clean, she told me, "We stand behind our technicians." I thought that that was wrong and they should stand behind their clients. She doesn’t know anything about that technician, she never met him, she never dealt with him personally, yet, she's gonna tell me, a client that has been having service with them for years paying my premium faithfully every month, that they stand behind technicians. There's a better way she could have put that.
On the other hand, AHS sent out a GE company which specialized in doing this kind of work and specialized in the product as well. Their tech said that my unit is very clean but over time, it will fill. The unit was purchased back in '02 and installed back in '03 and he said he doesn’t understand why anybody would even make those kinds of statements like the other tech made. They fixed it and it's working fine and I really appreciate that part of it. I would recommend American Home Shield.

We have two insurance policies with American Home Shield. I submitted a claim with them recently for the stove in our San Ramon, California property. When I was trying to turn the stove on to cook one day, the ignition did not work and I needed a lighter to light the stove up. It was easy to set the claim up online and I loved that process. Then AHS called me right back within 24 hours. I got a phone call for the contractor to schedule a service appointment.
The contractor that came out seemed good and knowledgeable. The tech said the problem with my stove was quite common because it happened to him all the time and he needed to order some stuff. But the repair dragged on for a long time. I was using my lighter to light my stove up and that was inconvenient. But it was good that I could still use my stove or else I would have been in trouble.
A lot of stuff had to be ordered and the tech had to come back three times to fix he stove. What happened was that the piece that was ordered didn't work and he had to reorder, and then another piece didn't work too. Finally, the tech was able to get the stove fixed after four weeks. But the service would have gone better if the contractor first made sure and tested the piece, then I wouldn't have had to schedule my husband to be home so we could have the tech come and fix the stove. That was really inconvenient. But other than that, AHS has been good, quick and responsive. I'm very happy with how efficiently the service has been done.

I used American Home Shield's website to schedule an appointment and it automatically assigned GE to me. The appointment was scheduled on a Friday, but usually, when a contractor comes to my house, they will call me. I called GE's 800 number back, then I found out they canceled my appointment because no one was in the house. I told them that I assumed they would call me 30 minutes before they come to my house. If they did, I would have stayed there or I would have found my way to be there. They rescheduled back my appointment in the next week and the person came and fixed my appliance problem very quickly, and I was very satisfied. He fixed it in about 10 minutes, so I was impressed.
We also went into some billing issue because my appointment was made by GE instead of American Home Shield. When the contractor tried to bill American Home Shield, there was a problem, so he had to call American Home Shield to re-initiate the request. The customer service from AHS tried to help different ways. They also tried to re-enable the canceled appointment, but it didn’t work. The rep tried to schedule a new one through the AHS website, but it was set to a different contractor company and could not be assigned to GE. She really tried to help us and she was very nice. However, the website is not user-friendly and not designed properly, so she could not do anything on that day. The technician told me he would work with GE to figure out this problem.
I was happy with the GE service. In my previous requests from AHS, I never got a satisfied contractor and the contractors were individuals, not big companies, so I was very happy the first time I got GE when I made the appointment from AHS. The only thing is they didn’t call me in the first appointment, but that was not a big deal.

The contractor that came out was very friendly and he was very informative. He was extremely helpful, and the shower head is working great now. We really appreciate having the service from AHS. We just moved in this house three years ago but we had to use them for about six times at a cost of a pretty penny had we had to come out of pocket.

American Home Shield has too many accounts now and they can’t properly service most of them. You better get up early in the morning and call them because if you start trying to call them after 10 or 11 o’clock, you’re never gonna get them. You’re gonna get transferred from person to person because nobody ever handles it. You'll get tired of waiting and if you call close to 5 o’clock, you just stay on the phone until it’s closed. When AHS first started out, they weren’t like this, but like everything else, they got too much business, and they can’t handle it all, so the consumers take the hit.
I have two properties and one was never serviced in Oklahoma. The air went out and we called, but that’s not an area out they service. Nobody ever came. AHS told me to get it fixed, and they'll pay for it when I send what they need. I told them that it’s 100-and-something degrees, so they went back and forth, waited for somebody to call, and finally had it fixed themselves. With the other property, I got an oven and it's a GE oven and a cooktop. You have to make sure the oven measurements are right because it has to be restocked and you end up paying the difference. I called in, spoke with several people and finally spoke with someone who told me to just order the oven and not to send it back if it didn't fit because I have to pay a 25% restocking fee.
She told me to call and AHS will give me up to $150 to have the oven modified if it didn't fit, which is exactly what happened. However, they said they don’t have anybody who works for the company and they don’t do that with American Home Shield. They escalated to a supervisor who also said they don’t do that, but the calls of the person I spoke to were recorded and can be pulled. Another person called me to ask if I was satisfied and I wasn't. I didn’t know that it wasn’t a replacement for the same type of appliances that you had. You had to take what you were given and that wasn’t my understanding when I took up the American Home Shield contract.

It was several hours before they called. We couldn’t do laundry, but we understand it takes time to get people out to us. The tech got out the next day and once he got out there, he was efficient, got it done, and everything is working fine. AHS has increased premiums over the last couple of years, though, and minimized service. So, we're not getting the same level of service we used to with our contract. The first time that they said that they could get a person out, we couldn't be there at that particular time so we set up a different appointment. When the repairman came, he could not find the leak. He put Freon in but AHS didn't allow enough to pay for the Freon. He owned Freon and his price was not much above it so I paid him the difference. He took care of it all in an hour or two and he was professional. He was on time and he was very accommodating to fit our schedule, so I couldn't complain. He did the job in a timely manner, was efficient and had no complaints. Since the repair, the air conditioner is working fine. I was satisfied and we've sent several people to AHS. No one from AHS has called me to explain why they closed my first ticket and opened a second ticket with a later date. After researching myself, I understand that the first company was unable to install the part, the second company doesn't service my area, and according to the escalation team, I need to give 24 hours to find a 3rd company when they did such a spectacular job of not finding anyone in the first two companies. First it was a week until someone came to check my oil furnace, luckily I could tell by the looking at it that if I turned on the heat I would have carbon monoxide throughout my house! The flue pipe had rusted way from the ceiling. This very important piece was not covered, even though the furnace was completely unusable without it. I was told by one person it was covered then I was called by another person who told me it wasn't. I called AHS to discuss this without any luck and then was told that I would still be charged the $75 fee even though when I set up the appt I told them the pipe was disconnected. Then I was told a supervisor wasn't available and "wouldn't do anything anyway".
I found another company to do the job for half what the AHS contracted company was going to charge me. The pipe is fixed and the tech suggest I have the furnace cleaned. AHS had a $75 tune-up special on their website so I told him and he said that was a great deal & what I needed. I called (& waited on hold for 45 mins) to make sure this special was for oil furnaces, should have known, it wasn't. But I was told that the service charge of $75 from my 1st appt was removed from my bill. That is why the company got 1 star instead of zero, the women I talked to last knew what she was doing, she gave excellent customer service. The other times I have had to have repairs they have been handled well but this fiasco has totally changed my opinion of the company.

I'd say AHS has "poor" customer service, but that wouldn't be correct. More accurately, they have NO customer service. Try finding a number for the CS department. Good luck. The closest I got was one rep finally saying the best they could recommend was for me to speak to someone in the billing department about customer service issues. I filed a claim 5 days ago and although making the claim request was quick and painless, getting AHS to "authorize" my claim so the plumber can come back out to do the work has been a nightmare. 5 days later, of which in the past 24 hours I've spent 4 hours and 17 minutes on the phone with AHS trying to find out what the hold up is, and I'm still without a water heater and NO water to my house because if we turn it on the unit still leaks and is ruining my carpet!
Finally on day 5 and countless phone calls to AHS and I think they have it "authorized", except now I'm having to wait on their purchasing department to order the new unit? So, being that it is now Friday (I filed the claim first thing Monday morning!) and the plumber just got word that AHS authorizing them replacing the unit... the plumber is already booked for today and can't come out until "maybe Monday". Yes folks, that's an entire week with water. No bathing, no flushing toilets, no cooking, no laundry... you get the picture. To say I'm frustrated, is an understatement.

I recently acquired AHS warranty for the house my family bought last year. House was built in 2013 and is in a good condition. As a new home owner, I thought it a wise idea to re-key the locks in the house. Against this backdrop, I called AHS to request for a re-keying of the locks. The lady rep I spoke to scheduled an appointment for me with a company called Realty Rekey LLC and I was informed one of the Rekey company's rep would contact me to schedule an appointment. As was told, the Rekey company rep did call and told me he would not be available until a week from the date of our appointment scheduling. I consented. On the day scheduled for the Rekey rep to come do the re-keying, he was nowhere to be found!
I reached out to AHS to intimate them of the development, a rep by the name of Mike, who would rather talk over his customer than hear the customer's plight, kept soliloquizing while fondling with his computer system. Ultimately, Realty Rekey was contacted and the rep (Realty Rekey) called me thereafter to say he could not honor the earlier appointment because he was sick on the date in question. He promised to come the following day, and true to his word; was at my home, couple minutes before the scheduled time. The re-keying for the door to the garage was successfully executed. Upon re-keying the lock for the door to the main house, the lock got damaged!
According to the Realty Rekey rep, the lock got damaged because my lock was a smart lock! In his words, smart locks become difficult to be re-keyed after 10 years of their being installed. I pointed out to him that the lock was not up to 10 years as the house was just built in 2013. Long story short, he told me I had to go buy a new lock to replace the lock he damaged while he was in the process of trying to re-key it!!! Disappointed and frustrated by the reality of what had just happened, I called AHS to intimate them of the development. Artee, who attended to me, was as professional and empathetic as could be. She promised that AHS would look into getting authorization for the replacement of the damaged lock and enjoined me to call back and check the status later.
I called back about 4 hours later and after about 25 minutes wait, Mike whom I had earlier spoken to some days back, was on the line. After the normal verification process, he told me that AHS could not help with my damaged lock and that the responsibility for the replacement lied squarely on me! I pointed out to him that the damage to my lock occurred while the Realty rep AHS sent to my house, was doing the re-keying. It will be unconscionable and definitely reeks of a company without ethics and/or heart, if AHS insists that I replace my lock that had no issues whatsoever prior to the re-keying done by the Realty rep they sent to my house.
As I write, my $100 deductible has already being drawn from my credit card; the lock for the door to my main house has been damaged by my home warranty company I trusted to remedy damages and my home warranty company rep is affirming that the repair and/or replacement of my door lock damaged by the rep they sent to me, lies squarely on my hands! BBB, thank you for being there and for creating a forum as this.
Hello, Uchechukwu. I regret to hear that one of our service contractors caused damage to your lock on the main door. A Social Media team member will be in contact with you to offer more assistance.

When we bought our house, we didn’t realize that the way they had wired it was kind of insufficient, so we were having an issue with one of our breakers. It was tripping at random times. We put in a request through American Home Shield and they sent out a local electrician, and they were not very responsive. It’s kind of difficult to get them out there and then once they came out, they seem to not be really interested in what we had to say or even really do anything to fix the problem. All they really suggested was to try not to use any extension cord, which was completely inadequate. We ended up talking to AHS about the fact that the issue wasn’t that we have an extension cord. The issue is actually that there are way too many outlets for one breaker, and the gauge of cord that was used was too small.
AHS said that was considered an upgrade and it was not covered by our policy. So at that point, we just contacted our own electrician and have him come in. He did an estimate for us that was way below the estimate that the contractors through American Home Shield had given us. He was able to complete the job within a week and a half at the fraction of the cost.
The only other claim that I’ve made with AHS is for our air conditioner and that turned out okay. They had somebody come out, and they looked at the unit, determined it was completely out of Freon, and then went back to American Home Shield and asked them how best to proceed. They said, “Okay, why don’t you do a pressure test to see if there’s a leak somewhere.” So he did that and they did determine there was a leak. They replaced two valves and that was covered, and then they completely refilled the unit with Freon. We did get a little bit of break in price with the Freon, through the warranty. It was 65 bucks a half pound and then we ended up paying 55 bucks for it, instead. That was partially helpful, but I really like for them to pay more of the Freon cost if that was a possibility.

It smelled really strong, so I made a call to American Home Shield as I usually do when submitting a claim since I'm not a big online person. I'd rather just call in and be able to explain the problem over the phone with somebody.
The rep who I was in contact with was fabulous, super sweet, and very nice. I explained everything to the young lady and I was kinda frantic. We live in Texas and it was 104 degrees outside. She told me not to worry and they got the issue taken care of. She also made sure that somebody would come out that day to look at it. The guys who came out were awesome. It was a man and his son. It was like a small family business which I like because smaller businesses don't have an overhead, so they're normally cheaper and a lot nicer. I felt very comfortable having them in my home and that means a lot to me. They looked around, did what they needed to do, and explained some things to me like what I can do that will help out. And so far, we've been doing good.

They had to do another hole and I told them it was fine. They said the only thing that they can think of is the condensation of the vent because the air conditioner was on, but everything was solid. Then a gentleman came and did the drywall. He cut the drywall and the support thing. He patched a hole but he didn't patch the other. I told him not to worry about it because I have a friend that can help me do it.
The reps at American Home Shield did what they were supposed to do as far as helping me. I was surprised that the contractor came out so fast and they worked around my schedule. I wanted to be assured that there wasn't a leak up there from a pipe because I've had that before. But they assured me that it wasn't a leaky pipe, and that everything was dry up there. Back in August of last year, however, the AC went out and we went eight months without an AC or a heater. The compressor, the condenser and a TXV valve or reversing valve had to be replaced. I also had to pay to put a filter and freon in it, as well as to replace the coils. Then we replaced all the parts for a second time, after which they determined that we needed a new unit. So we got a new system at the beginning of the year. But, by the time it was actually getting fixed, the contract was coming up to be over. When we bought the house in March last year, the warranty was included with it and it was about to expire, so they told me that in order to get the unit replaced, I would need to renew my contract for a year. So I renewed the contract, which I paid $800 for, and American Home Shield covered a majority of the repair and they covered for all the parts, too. I only paid $500 plus all the costs every time I had to put in a work order for it.
The most expensive thing was having to put refrigerant in it because they only cover about $10 and I ended paying $500 for that. Then with all the $75 service calls and all the steps they did not cover, all together I probably had $800 in it, which compared to a new system, isn't bad. I get that American Home Shield has a procedure they have to go through and they have to check every route. I've used them for plumbing issues and for appliances, and they outsourced those locally in our area. But that vendor sent for the AC was from Jacksonville, Florida which was almost six hours away. That was weird but that must be the only contractor that they had on their roster there.
Then my stove went out and I used the warranty for that too. The really funny thing was a company called Bailey’s Heating and Air Services came and was able to fix my stove as long as it took for the heating and air system to get the AC fixed. It seems like American Home Shield takes some really cheap vendors because once they installed that new system, I had to pay for a permit to be done for them to install it in the county I live in, and then they failed the inspection. That vendor was an issue in itself, but it's over and done with and the AC is working.

The rep I talked to when I called was very professional. I was on hold for a while, but I expected that. The contractor they sent was very good too. They came out the first time, put a new washer or seal and it didn't work. Our water heater kept leaking and leaking, then the contractor came back and said it couldn't be repaired. I needed a new one and American Home Shield ordered it. It took two or three days for me to get the okay, and then bring the water heater. It was good service.

I bought a house and American Home Shield was recommended by my realtor. The house had a problem immediately and American Home Shield took care of it right away. Then later on, I had an issue with the dishwasher and again, for 75 bucks, it was taken care of. I had a dishwasher that wasn’t sealing properly. The tech took care of it and he was really nice about it. Also, I had a plumber and an appliance guy. The appliance guy was very businesslike and he was kinda quick and the plumber was a lot more personable. But both were very professional and seemed like nice people. I've had nothing but positive experience with AHS.

My AC was leaking one time. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. Their rep was very helpful and got somebody in a timely manner. The guy they got from Seabolt's Heating and Cooling was really good. He got the leak fixed and he knew exactly what was wrong with it when he checked it out. Overall, he did good quality work. I recommend AHS to others. It's a good company to have. They're right on top of things.

American Home Shield came out three different times for my AC and I never had any problems with that. They diagnosed the problem, and fixed it in a timely, professional manner. When my fridge's compressor went out, I raised the ticket and they sent out a contractor to come to look at it. He diagnosed the issue and said that the compressor’s blown, that it needs to be replaced. I thought that the first guy works on compressors but he doesn't.
So they hired a second guy to come out and then the contractor called and asked what's going on with my fridge. I told him that it's a bad compressor and I gave him the name and the company of the first contractor. He said they don't work on a sealed system, so they're not gonna come out. At that point, I was thinking why did American Home Shield hire the second guy to come if he doesn’t work on compressors? When they hired a third contractor to come out and look at it, I was getting frustrated 'cause it's been a whole week without the fridge. It was a Friday and I'm gonna have to go through the whole weekend without a fridge too.
I got on the instant chat and asked why the second contractor was hired when they don’t work on compressors. Their rep told me that there's no way to know if they work on compressors at the time that they assign them. To me, that just makes no sense. If they don’t know what their skill set is at the time of hiring, do they just pull names out of the hat and hope for the best? It feels to me that it should be their job to relay the information back and forth and hire the appropriate people for the job.
What I think happened was, the first guy came out and said it was the compressor. That’s probably the worst-case scenario, a $300 repair at that point. So AHS was hoping the second guy comes out and diagnose it's not the compressor. Thankfully, the third contractor works on sealed systems but had I not gotten involved and contacted the company and told them about the compressor, I don't know how much more time it would have been. Another thing that is very frustrating is that when I told them in the email that their service is unacceptable, I never got a response from any of them. They just ignored me.

Our problem was some kind of short in the electrical wire. It was just an annoyance because the breaker kept going out. There was also something that the contractor identified. It was maybe too much wattage on one circuit. So there were two different issues but they may have occurred around the same time. I filed that claim online and it was a seamless process. Doing it online is just quicker. It's most efficient that way. United Electric Company came out and diagnosed the issue and problems quickly. They resolved one of the issues and gave a recommendation on what to do to solve the other issue. We actually didn't get the work done but it hasn't reoccurred. Nonetheless, United Electric was good. They were very quick and prompt.

I typically submit claims online and that's easy. But for my claim on the dishwasher, I had a question whether the unit's leaking issue was plumbing-related, where we would need a plumber, or the issue was with the dishwasher, where we would need an appliance repair person. So I called so that American Home Shield could potentially send the proper person out to look and diagnose the issue. But the wait times for the call center were enormous. I was placed on hold to wait for a supervisor and it was a Sunday so I wanted to see how long it would go. I was left on hold for about a half hour then I finally hung up. It's also obvious that American Home Shield outsources it to overseas because there was no one that spoke clear English.
The dishwasher issue got resolved but the problem was that we weren't the ones who put the dishwasher in and unbeknownst to me, it was still under warranty. I called the call center for American Home Shield and the gentleman there told me that he was going to credit my account with the $75 call fee. They said I would have to be charged first and then they would come back and reverse the charge. I asked them if I would need to call them back and remind them on it, and the representative said no. He said he would call GE and verify that the dishwasher was still under warranty and then he would do that for me. But that never happened.
The contractors were great though. One was a GE factory repairman and before the dishwasher claim, I had a local contractor's electrician come out. And both of the service providers were excellent. They were both prompt and on time. The GE guy spent a tremendous amount of time diagnosing and working with the appliance, and was extremely thorough. The electrical guy was very thorough as well and he did a great job. None of them seemed like they were trying to hurry to get out, like where they would get something and run out. They seemed to have tried to spend time getting the job done properly. In summary, the contractors that American Home Shield sends out and the experience in going through their online service are all wonderful. But the call center experience was horrible and if you have to deal with them, good luck.

The online site of AHS when I submitted the claim for the air conditioner was very friendly. But I wish there is a way that you could ask questions like send them a text and someone will text back. There were questions that I had that it would be a whole lot easier to be able to just go ahead and ask a question to know whether or not this is something that is a normal thing or if I need to get somebody to look at it. I’m a first-time homeowner so a lot of stuff is new to me.
My air conditioner made this horrible sound, and then it just quit. After I put my claim in, I waited about 24 hours, and then looked back on the website and it said to call the contractor, Lanny. Then the contractor was out that night. He was very enjoyable and he got it to where it could work a tiny bit, to where there is air movement. It really wasn’t cold. Then he saw what parts that were needed. He kept in contact with Home Shield in the ordering the parts ‘cause the first ones they sent were wrong. And then he had to go back and do that again. He worked with them really well. The repair took two weeks and it would’ve been faster had the right parts arrived. It was hot and my little cat was panting her little tongue with me. But after the repair, the AC has been working great.
This is the second claim that I filed since I’ve had AHS and they were really quick and they responded nicely. When I talked to them on the phone, they were very considerate when I was trying to explain something and not really knowing what I was trying to explain. And the contractors were respectable when they came into my home. My aunt bought a new house and I recommended AHS to her.

I got a response very quickly from the contractor after submitting the online request to American Home Shield. It was within an hour and the guy came out the next day. He was very professional and he fixed it. Since then, the microwave has been working fine. However, the first claim I had with AHS was handled poorly. It was for a kitchen faucet that wasn’t working correctly. There was a long delay for the guy to come out and when he did, he didn’t fix it. He came out a second time and he was able to put a temporary fix on it but it wasn’t fixed completely. He told us that we needed to call AHS at that point. He said he was not making any money on that deal and that he was not being paid enough to do it. He said we needed to make a claim on it, call AHS back and tell them we need a new faucet.
I called for a new faucet and it was a nice one. I paid American Home Shield 800 bucks for the year, so it was a good insurance package that I signed up for and they offered me the value of a replacement item that was not even comparable to the faucet. They offered 150 bucks and they said I still had to pay the $100 service fee on top of that. So, I sat there with a kitchen faucet that didn’t work for weeks. Then, they charged me 100 bucks for someone to come out and because of that, they said I was only going to get 50 bucks to put towards replacing the faucet and it was up to me to get it installed. I would consider not doing business with them just because of that person.
I also had a claim for the air conditioner and when I paid 100 bucks for the guy to come out, he charged me an insane cost to load Freon into the system. I would have been better off had I not had American Home Shield and if I just called a normal air conditioning guy to come and put Freon in the system. There was no insurance involved and I felt like American Home Shield was a scam in that regard. For the first two things, it was a waste of money. People understand where they stand on their appliances if they have been living in their house for a while so they would be better off without AHS.
Good morning Ronald,

My washing machine was making a lot of noise, especially when it was time for it to spin. It was also not rinsing the clothes out well. It would get rid of the water but the clothes were still wet. I called American Home Shield and let them know that I was having problems with the machine and it took less than a week for someone to come out to our home.
The first technician didn't know what he was doing. The first thing he said to me was that my machine is gonna make noise. But then, I knew the machine is gonna make noise. I can't hear my telephone ring and the TV 'cause the sound from the machine was like a jet propeller like the motor was gonna fly out of it. He told me he would be back the following week because he didn't do anything. So, they had to order parts and had to wait until the parts came. When the parts came, that's when the second technician came out and he knew right away what was going on. The washer did okay but now, the same noise is back. Then I heard this popping noise. I called AHS and the technician from GE came back out again, and he said he knows what the problem was. He ordered the part, and the part is here. They're supposed to be coming to put it in.
My complaint, however, is that the person from the delivery service that AHS used to deliver the part, left the package at my garage. My garage is located behind my front door, which means I cannot see my garage from my door. I had people who came and they were the ones who noticed that the box was sitting there on the ground. As a matter of fact, the package had been sitting there overnight because it had rained on it. Common sense would tell them that I don't live in my garage. Nevertheless, I know my issue will be fixed at some point.

I have had American Home Shield and recently needed to contact them in regards to my water heater and furnace in the past two months. I called to have my water heater replaced and they sent out a service technician to replace my water heater. He completed his diagnosis and told us it needed to be replaced. He then told me it would take over a week and a half to two weeks to come back and install the new one. He was backed up with other work and that was the earliest he could come. We called AHS Customer Service to see if they could refer us to another company. The ultimate answer was "no." They were impossible to get a hold of (incredibly long waits) and rude - do not care attitude. We couldn't wait two weeks for the new water heater so we replaced it on our own. They offered us a cash settlement worth 1/3 of the real cost to replace. It took 8 weeks to process the cash settlement payment.
Our furnace just went out and we once again called AHS. It took them 4 days to get a technician to our house. The first group they referred us told us they no longer work with AHS (crazy). We then had to go back into the vacuum's black hole of customer service to wait and get another company to come out. The company came out today and told us AHS would authorize a very low end, cheap, inefficient furnace and we would have to pay $1,100 out of pocket. The furnace guy gave us an option to upgrade to a Carrier and that would cost us $3,200.
My experience is that AHS is a company that does not live up to minimal standards and expectations. Their business model is to collect premiums and when a repair is needed utilize the cheapest, unqualified repair companies that install low end, low cost replacement equipment to maximize their profits. They invest very little in customer service and don't care about the customers needs. The attorney general or some gov't agency should investigate this company for fraud.

Our water heater was broken and the American Home Shield contractor is coming tomorrow to replace it. They came out once and they recognized that there was a small fire down in one of the thermostats and that some wires were melted which is dangerous, and it was old too so it has to be replaced. My wife filed a claim through the internet which is the easiest way and it is usually how we do it. The contractor who came out was a very nice and very friendly. He was supposed to come between 12:00 and 4:00 and he was there hours earlier. He called me if I'd be available but I could not. He waited in front of my house until I came. He was super nice.
Our house has natural gas which we only use for our fireplace and heater of the pool. I was planning, when one of the equipments fails or dies, I will change them to a gas-operated one. It was also what I thought when the contractor said that the water heater has to be replaced and that I'll just pay on top of what AHS will pay. So, I called AHS and I went with the cash-out option. I didn’t wanna do something that was irreversible so I asked the rep if I can change it back if I change my mind and he said, “Yeah, you can do it.” He xplained to me these are additional costs so I would have to pay a lot to change it to gas water heater.
I was assuming what I have to pay is just pulling the pipe from that side of the home. I even talked with the guy who was out there if it was possible to run the gas pipe around the house because inside the house, they would have to cut the wall and it would have been more expensive, and the rep said yes. At the end I noticed that on top of what AHS would pay, I would have to pay $2,500 extra. So the estimate was around $3,500. I realized it was not an option for me at this time. I called American Home Shield back and told them to cancel the cash-out option and that I just wanted the replacement. And so far, everything was good.
Unfortunately, it has been a full 12 days and we still have cold water and I have a baby at home. I asked them about it on Tuesday and they said there are still no update. On Wednesday, the lady told me she will contact AHS and will let me know but I didn’t hear anything back. Tuesday and Wednesday passed, Thursday I called American Home Shield and the gentleman explained to me that the purchase order was sent out to the contractor on Tuesday. When he said that, it was late in the hour and I was busy at work so I could not call the contractor. I called the contractor on Friday and I said that AHS told me two days prior that they sent the purchase order and the lady told me, “No, they just sent it yesterday, last evening.” So somebody is not saying the truth. I pressed her to make an appointment and she made an appointment for Tuesday and the guy is supposed to come out tomorrow.
I've been an AHS customer for many, many years now and I also have two properties that I run with AHS. There are certain things that are obviously not covered but for the things that are covered, I am really happy overall with American Home Shield. They've always been responsive, trying to do things in a timely manner. That is very important to me. So everything perfect. Some of the contractors that they've sent out were good, some of them were bad. We had an instance wherein our free-standing ice maker was broken in our home and it took a very long time to repair. Apparently, it had a special part that had to be ordered. I understand that they had to do something like that. I have recommend AHS to some friends that have come across some issues.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield is simple. Whenever I have an issue, all I do is call in. I get the automated service and it directs me to service call. From there, they simply tell me that I’ll be contacted within the next 24 hours. But the automated service is not very specific. That’s the problem because the warranty doesn’t cover some of the things that actually go wrong and sometimes, you need to talk to a representative before they assign a contractor. Then they can say if something is not covered under the contract. I know that we all have a contract but with some of their stuff, you just don’t know. But when you’re trying to get to a representative, it’s almost impossible to do. I would like to have a representative somewhat easily available, if it's possible at any way, for something other than the standard dishwasher or plumbing.
Also, some things can’t wait for 24 hours. If I have a commode backing up in the bathroom, that is something that needs to be dealt with immediately. I’ve had this issue happen to me once before and what I’ve had to do is to call an outside plumber. That's why it would be so important if we could dial, get straight to a representative and say, “Hey, my commode is backing up now, and I need somebody out here now.”
With my recent claim, American Home Shield sent J Coppock International out. They had to replace the rotors and the belt of the dryer. They pretty much rebuilt it from the inside. So they had to order the parts and it's an LG dryer. The technician had to make a second visit but it was not his fault. He was very professional and he did a really good job. He came out about a week later and the dryer is working fine now. Not a single sound comes from it.

I called American Home Shield to get some kind of an update and I was told that I had the option to get the refrigerator replaced because the part could not be found. It was no longer being manufactured. Our problem was resolved and we got the refrigerator replaced this past Sunday. AHS covered most of the cost, we picked out a refrigerator and we had it delivered.
We also called AHS when we had an issue with our garage door opener and our dishwasher. Like with the refrigerator, my wife was adamant about the dishwasher. But we figured out what that problem was for that. When the garage door issue happened, I took care of filing the claim on my own. In getting an AHS rep, sometimes the wait can be a very long time and I get irritated. But as far as speaking with someone, it has been great. I would highly recommend AHS. My faucet and my garbage disposal were leaking. So I called Home Shield and they did a really good job as far as letting me know what I needed to do. Then I heard from Thomas Brothers Plumbing right away and we were also able to set the appointment up right away. Two days after I called, the contractor was able to come out and the plumber was great. He was prompt and professional. He explained how things worked and got the job done well. It was the first time I had ever made a claim with AHS and it worked well. I was very satisfied with my experience.

I had an air conditioning issue and after I called American Home Shield to file a claim, they got in touch with Joe’s Mechanical out of Terre Haute. Joe's has been Johnny-on-the-spot. They came out and tested, and said that the air conditioner was not completely bad, but it was heading that way quickly. They doubted it would make it through the summer, and so they replaced the unit with absolutely no hassle. The young man that came out was Derrick and I couldn’t have asked for a more polite and straightforward tech. He told me what the problem was and did top-notch work.
The AHS reps have been top-notch as well. I've only had one encounter with a gentleman a couple of years ago that didn’t seem to be really interested in his job. The rest have been very upfront in taking care of the issues that we've had. Whenever I call them, they get a hold of a repair person either the same day or the following day, and they’ve been out here normally within two to three business days to repair whatever the problem was. So, as we have done numerous times, I would suggest for anyone interested in AHS to take out the policy.

Our refrigerator stopped cooling completely. At first, it was just the top portion, then it was the bottom portion. We submitted a claim with AHS and the first person that they sent called to cancel. They told us they couldn't reschedule us till the following week but we told them that we already waited. I called back AHS and the person that was on the phone helped me. He was wonderful and he told me that he'd put me on hold and he'd see if he could get somebody out here within the next 24 to 48 hours. And he did.
Word of Mouth came out and their tech did well. He told us what was going on, what the situation was in reference to what the issue was, which was the compressor, and he said that it was a known problem with the refrigerator that we had. He said it was too expensive to fix it, so it would be better just to replace it. So I researched it a little bit because I really liked the refrigerator I had. I bought it because I had researched it prior and it was a big refrigerator that held a lot in the top and had the icemaker on the side, not in the door. Then it had a separate icemaker on the bottom. So when I researched it, the manufacturer was still making the same refrigerator, but they were making it with a new compressor, so they fixed the problem. So I went back and I purchased the same refrigerator. Overall, other than the wait time when I talked to the assistants and the rep, AHS was very helpful.

American Home Shield sent a tech who was very polite and knowledgeable for our refrigerator that stopped working. It wasn’t getting cold. The tech started with the least expensive problem first and it didn’t work. Then he had to come back out two more times, one to order parts, and the second time to install them. It’s been working great ever since. My AHS coverage is good. The only thing is I feel they could do a little better job of notifying you that the price is gonna increase. But other than that, they do a good job of covering things that they say they’re gonna cover. I recommended them to a lot of friends.

American Home Shield has been great to deal with. I've had one issue with the AC where it needed Freon then the other one was that the line needed to be cleared up. I submit claims online and over the phone depending on what's going on, and both have been fine. When I've dealt with the representatives, they've been helpful. The contractors have been fine too. The usually come out within two days and have been on time. They have fixed the problem and the quality of their work has been good.

Within a couple of days of placing the claim, the guy came and he was really good. The garbage disposal got fixed the same day he came and it was surprisingly easy and quick. There also wasn’t a lot of hassle, so it was awesome.

I took the warranty with American Home Shield because we had bought a used home and I'm very pleased with the service. I'd definitely recommend this. When I had a problem with a washing machine, I filed the claim over the phone and the representatives I dealt with were excellent. They took care of me and there were no questions. They were also very professional and polite. The technician was fantastic as well. It was GE and I believe they're the only ones that have their own service department. The technician was here on time and took care of the issue.

My washing machine died and American Home Shield sent Sears to repair it. Sears replaced several parts, but one part that was to be replaced was broken, so it had to re-ordered. The delivery of the parts was very slow. I wouldn't recommend Sears as a repair shop at all. When they got it all put back together, the washing machine still wouldn't run. So, they called AHS, and they all decided that we needed to replace the machine. It was a very prolonged time period before I had a washing machine again. Once I got the okay to go and purchase a machine myself, I did that. It took a very long time for AHS to reimburse me the amount that they were willing to pay for the machine, which was much less than what I actually had to pay. So, I wasn’t a happy camper.
My past experiences with American Home Shield have been positive. I have had some other previous problems that they solved almost immediately, and it was with a different repair company. But this particular experience with the washing machine was very negative and I'm very dissatisfied with it. AHS needs to not keep people on hold for over an hour before being able to speak to someone. They also need to find repairmen that know what they're doing.
Good afternoon Sally,

My box would keep tripping when I had the arrow on and the fuses in the box were getting hot. I couldn't have a lot of stuff on at the same time. Every time I turn it on, a couple of the top fuses would get hot. The first time contractor AHS sent out wrote up everything that they said was bad with it. The guy told me they were old and that something was wrong with the wiring as well. AHS denied the claim. At first, they said the contractor didn't give enough information. Then when the contractor gave additional information, AHS denied it and I had to wait a week and a half on that. I asked for a second opinion and a company came out. They got back with AHS, but I haven't heard anything from AHS yet and I'm not too happy.
When I set up an appointment with AHS, they find a company. Sometimes the company is able to fit you in and come the next day. But sometimes, you won't get a schedule until the next week or five days away. It's the luck of the draw. I like AHS though. The contractors they've sent are not people-persons, but I haven't run into any bad ones. Some speak more than others and some explain more than others, but it hasn't been to the point where it is unsatisfactory.

When we had a claim with American Home Shield for our AC, they sent out the contractor, AAA All Brands Appliance, and the tech came and looked at the AC. At that time, he said it was cooling because my sister, who was there at the time, had a different technician come out before him and this other technician had worked on the AC. But I had the tech from AAA check to make sure because the other technician wrote that something needed to be done. The AAA tech looked in and everything looked good, but he still attempted to fix whatever he could.
It has been easy to submit claims with AHS. Typically, I do this both online and over the phone through their automated system. That was how I submitted our last claim. afterwards, it was pretty quick to get a contractor to contact us. There was only one contractor that we had an issue with, but AHS sent another company out fast and we didn’t have to pay an additional fee. So far, the quality of the repairs that were made have been good. Everything has been good with AHS.

We like American Home Shield a lot. They've been here every time we've called. Submitting claims with them has been very good. I call them and set up an appointment. We don't have to pay until after the techs come to the house, which is awesome. We pay the $75 deductible and the guys take care of us. The technicians that they've sent out were well groomed. They're knowledgeable, very pleasant, and they made sure that we were taken care of. If they don't have a part, they'll go get it and come back. They all have done excellent work and they've all fixed the problems, and did it a minute time so we didn't have to wait around.
American Home Shield's customer service is really good. The only part that I don't like is waiting on the phone forever. We got locked out of the house one night and it was almost a two-hour wait. I finally stopped because it was midnight and I'm like, "You know what, we're just calling a locksmith. I've gotta go to bed." I recently had a claim for an appliance issue where they sent Whirlpool out. The appliance wasn't even a year old and it stopped working. So Whirlpool came out and replaced the parts. They didn't even charge us because it's still under warranty.
We've been with American Home Shield for two years. Initially, I went online and said, "You know what, we're buying an older home. Nobody had lived in it for three years. Let's go ahead and purchase the plan," which I did two weeks before we moved into the house. And it was ironic that the day after we moved into the house, the compressor on the air conditioner stopped. So, they were out here that day to repair it. I've recommended their service to a few people out in our complex and they have purchased. I've had three friends so far buy from them, and they've all been satisfied too.

The outside unit of the AC was messed up. Some little switch there had fried itself. We called American Home Shield and they set up somebody and then that somebody called us. It was an emergency situation 'cause I had just gotten out of the hospital. They did an emergency setup and then the people came out within about two hours. They went to work right away, got it fixed, and the house started cooling down within 30 minutes of them getting there. I also had one plumbing company come out, and on their receipt, I wrote, "Very hateful, would not listen to me, pretty much did what they wanted to do." When my husband got home, he got a little firm with AHS and told them what needed to be done. AHS said that my husband was correct and actually did it the right way. I would give them a triple A, star, they were great.
American Home Shield is well worth the $66 a month. On some things, it's taken a few days to get it done, but there are certain things you can wait on, and there are certain things you can't, and they make a good decision on, "Okay, we're gonna expedite this. If we can't, this can just come at a small, slow pace, and get it done." But they've always gotten everything done.

But the supervisor I spoke to was not cool. He wouldn’t listen to me and he kept talking over me. He completely ignored everything and he told me it was not the same thing. I was upset about it and I canceled it. I've had them come out and fix my air conditioning a couple of times and the techs always made sure everything was working so I don’t understand why they didn’t do that at my daughter’s place.
I've been with AHS for 10+ years and I got another property added on. You would think that they would have worked with me, but they refused so I'm not happy. My daughter says the heat is working now and I'm glad for that. It saved me another service fee. I tried to stay calm through the whole thing. Once, I yelled at the lady that I called back because I was so frustrated. The first gentleman who came in took one look at the washer and dryer and said that they don’t repair those. He started showing out the paperwork and had me sign it. He walked out the door. American Home Shield's contractor came out and they noticed right away what the problem was. They sent off for the part and they fixed it. They put the new part in and we noticed that it heated up, but it still wasn’t drying. We called and the young man came back out. He got an error when they did the diagnostic. He said he'll be able to fix it so he came out again with another part and he said that it was fixed. But when we turned on the dishwasher, we were hearing that the water is going, but it’s not washing at all. That was not the issue before and that went on for some time. Last week, I got an email saying that AHS will pay 300+ dollars towards the dishwasher. I found the dishwasher at Home Depot and purchased it.
My AHS experience was horrible. Right now, my oven has not been working for six months and I’m very afraid. Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up and I can’t get AHS to come to some resolution. I’m completely frustrated. Also, I purchased the home package with them - the pool and the house warranty. Apparently, I’m paying for full coverage, but they don’t cover anything for the pool. The policy says they cover pool heaters but when our pool heater blew about a year and a half ago, they didn’t fix it or replace it. I’m really frustrated with them. Nevertheless, I still continued to pay for the warranty and I like the quality of the folks that they send out. They are very professional. I just don’t like how they move the business along.

I called American Home Shield a couple of months ago and gave the names and the phone numbers of the specific tenants who are allowed to call. When they come and do a repair, I get a note on email or a text message from American Home Shield. If they do something outside of American Home Shield, I need to be notified, too. So, a tenant would not go in and say, “Oh, repair my TV or repair something,” that I have not agreed to.
Two past experiences with my latest tenant made me a little uncomfortable with AHS. First of all, they charged my credit card --- the tenant will just say to charge the credit card on file and of course AHS will charge mine for the service calls, which should not have been the case. Then, there was another situation where the contractor went into one of my homes, and the tenant told him to fix this and that. The contractor wanted to charge me without talking to me first. Nevertheless, having a warranty is valuable.

I had a problem with a washing machine in a house that I rent out. The rubber gasket inside the machine is black and as I was taking the clothes out of the machine, the black thing was coming off on the clothing. A tech came and said that that the gasket had to be replaced. He called back about a week later and told me that he already got the gasket and can do the job.
It's a washer and dryer where the dryer sits on top of the washing machine and the tech told me to make sure that somebody takes the dryer off before he could do a repair. But they did not mention any of that when they came to the house originally. I also couldn't remove the dryer and neither can my tenant. I asked why they can't do it and the rep said that they didn't have two men crews. I asked why are they coming out to repair washing machines when they're a heating and air conditioning company. She said, "Well, we kinda do that also." I told her, "What do you mean kind of? What is kind of? Describe that, define that to me." She asked why I was giving her a hard time but I said I wasn't and that they're the ones giving me a hard time.
I called AHS back and told them the same story and they were very cooperative about it. They sent a different company and the tech came but made no mention of replacing the gasket. He spent quite a bit of time scrubbing it and said that it was the best he could do at that point but he thought that would work. It's been a month now and my tenant seems satisfied with it.
I was really upset with AHS when it first happened but they rectified the situation. I even told the rep I was gonna cancel my contract and if I ever had another problem and they sent me that company, I wasn't gonna accept it. I won't have them come to my house again. But they took care of the problem and that's all that counts. They sent an inferior company but it wasn't their fault. Also, I asked if I had to pay a second service surcharge and she said no and I didn't.

They did a half-assed job "diagnosing" the issue. So poorly, in fact, that AHS rejected the claim because the report didn't make sense and was "lazy" and "unclear" (literal language from American Home Shield Authorizer). Then the At Home Services company said the repair would "take too long" and I needed to "shop around" for an electrician who "wanted to do the work." Apparently, At Home Services doesn't enjoy making money or surviving as a business.
AHS got me another company to come out and do a "second opinion" report. This company claims that since AHS hasn't signed the work contract, they refuse to work with AHS and require me to pay out of pocket. I told this to the AHS rep, who reported this was against their policies--that she'd contact the business and then call me back no later than 4 pm, Tuesday evening. The time came and went, no call. Had to call back and re-explain the situation to another random-ass employee who said she'd have my original agent return my call. And, as you could guess, it's been crickets. The exhaust was acting up in the bathroom then the front porch lights and a ceiling were also doing some. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and talked to a human. I made sure I hit that option to get to an operator to speak with so I could request a subcontractor in my community. I had an issue when the computer scheduled somebody over the phone, trying to request. I hit that option as I couldn’t get to a live customer person. So, trying to correct that situation and request for someone in our community was difficult but I got it straight after two days.
The local contractors were good although I had one from northern Virginia where he fixed the problem but it was a hot mess. It was my first request and to get the items ordered and shipped, it took a month and a half to get it corrected and it wasn’t cool. This is what made my decision to have somebody in my community. Nevertheless, everybody has been professional. They would call us back and say that if we continue to experience more problems, they would come back out so that was really nice.
The last company was awesome and fantastic. The gentleman that came had to replace some wiring stuff and he went to Lowe's and got what he needed. But it's best when the contractor has stuff on the truck because they would call and try to get a little ballpark of what’s going on after American Home Shield schedules the appointment. At times, they may have stuff on the truck, which I like, or they could get what I need so they could correct it right then. Before the Sears technician arrived the technician called to tell me the refrigerator shelves could not be replaced because it is considered cosmetic. They are broken, not merely scratched??? How does anyone know it is cosmetic if you are calling before even arriving?! They were also called out to look at the dishwasher. The year old dishwasher was considered unfixable. I was away at Army reserve drill and had someone to meet them there. I have now called AHS a total of 5 times, with 45 minute plus wait times each time. I am actually on hold as I type this. But I also had a claim with my dishwasher when it just stopped working. I called American Home Shield and it was days before they were able to find me someone. They say that this contractor doesn't do this and this other one doesn't do that. I had to keep calling back until one day, I tried the dishwasher again and it started working all of a sudden so I didn't need anybody to come. My renewal is coming up at the end of November and I won't go back with them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I called in my claims to American Home Shield and usually, they let me know that the contractor would contact me as soon as possible. However, it was me who would try to find out, give them a call and let them know that AHS gave me their number. That was when they would usually try to call back. AHS has two companies that seemed like they were bringing the business to me and I’m not the business to them but most of the companies were good about answering, respectful and very understanding with my requests. When I had a claim for the AC, the company responded quickly. I live in an area where when it’s hot, it gets really hot and the urgency of that request was kinda high but I had no issues with the company. The guy was good about telling why it caused damage to my AC and he was able to fix it. I’m pleased with the company itself.

American Home Shield worked as designed. Our unit was constantly running, but it wasn't cooling correctly and bringing down the temperature of the house. A work order was written up and everything went very smoothly. AHS did a deductible and then the guy showed up and fixed our unit. He did a great job and I'd hire him back again.

It is fairly easy to submit claims with American Home Shield. I used the mobile app and submitted the claim easily and seamlessly. I immediately got a little confirmation email that said they were gonna contact us. It was fairly smooth. We had a gentleman come out for the garage door and then we had somebody else for electrical. The garage door guy was good but the electrical guy wasn't great. My question was whether I had another slot for another breaker so that I could buy one. In my garage, there was an outlet that had two wires coming out to like a little bitty transformer that's like three by three inches. It's for a doorbell but it's not wired properly. It should not be outside of the wall with electrical wires coming to it. It is a safety issue and I wanted it to be addressed. I asked if we could run some conduit above to get that done properly and the guy said he would have to see if it's covered.
Another safety concern was in my panel. There were two lines coming through on one of the breakers, which is the standard 30-amp breaker. So there were two positives and two negatives. There were two things wired up to one circuit and that's not proper. It's not safe. So I wanted to get that addressed. Again, he said that he would have to see if it's covered and that he would put in the request. But that was as far as it went. He was there 10 minutes, max, and that was it. He didn't do anything physically and that interaction wasn’t great only because nothing was completed and I never heard back. The timeline was short because my policy was soon to end. But there was never any follow up or completion of that even though it was within the time of my policy still being valid.
Hi, Jeremy. I definitely understand the concerns you are having with your electrical system. A Social Media team member will be in contact with you to discuss what your policy actually covers.

There was a stoppage in the plumbing and no one could figure out why it wouldn’t drain so we submitted a claim with American Home Shield. Northern Plumbing called to let me know what's going on and came in two days. They couldn't figure out how to get it open and couldn't fix it. American Home Shield said they couldn't do anymore and I had to get someone else. Other than that, we submit claims online and the website's user-friendliness is good.

I had an attic fan that was binding and had an electrical smell. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the first electricians that they sent out looked at it and said it needed to be replaced but they couldn't do it because they didn't have a ladder that would reach up high enough. They were scheduled to come to do the repair but when I called them, they said that they can't do it and they don't have a ladder that's high. I called AHS back and they sent out another company , Cutting Edge Technologies & Designs. They looked at it and said that it needed to be replaced and they did. Everything is fine since then. American Home Shield is a good product to have but they need to screen the companies they send out a little better.

The AC was running nonstop, but it wasn’t cooling so I filed a claim to American Home Shield through their website. Something was clogged up and the technician unclogged it and cleaned the coils on it. He was good. I talked to him and he showed me what he did and left.

I’ve had a long relationship with American Home Shield and I pretty much always have come through. They’ve done a lot for me in my home but this last episode, there are a lot of things that were wrong with it and it took about two weeks. They installed a new air conditioning unit for me. It was under warranty but it broke. They couldn’t find anybody in the area during the heat wave that was certified to work on a warranty equipment, so it didn’t get fixed on time.
I had to keep on following up. When I asked to be switched to a supervisor, they disconnect me. When that happens, you have to start the whole process all over again and there isn’t even a way to communicate online. You can’t get a little more descriptive when it goes beyond to requesting somebody out to fix my AC. I only spoke to two people that their primary language was English and most of the other people were very softly spoken and spoke with an accented English that made it very difficult for me to understand them.
When they tried to switch me through to other people, I get disconnected and I spent hours. I ordered a copy of my phonebook because I spent hours on the phone trying to get through. When I try to talk to the people that I got a chance to talk to, I’d ask questions. On at least one occasion I’m more given incorrect information and other times I couldn’t even talk to them because they would respond with what seemed like a scripted dialogue. Because they couldn’t find anybody, they have a policy where they can ask you if you wanna find someone that’ll work with them and I was so desperate that I tried to do that and I ended up calling two local distributors to see if I could get the names of people that might work on Payne equipment. I followed up with those contractors and none of them were certified to work on warranted Payne equipment.
It was really an odyssey of frustrations and I have health issues that were being exacerbated. I have breathing issues and I have a heart issue. It was extremely hot and I live in a garden unit in a condo that was extremely hot as well. They ended up resolving it by installing a new air conditioning unit in September. I’m glad that they decided to put in a unit that someone could service. Ultimately, they exceeded my expectation with that but the whole process that was used to get there was a nightmare. They should have more people that speak English well so people can understand them. It’s very frustrating especially when I can’t talk to anybody and I’m desperate for an answer to find out what’s going on.
I also wish there would’ve been someone that I could’ve reached and spoken to during all of the time that this was going on. It was very frustrating but they fixed a lot of things in my house, and usually within a very short period of time. This was very unusual and it culminated with my cat who was also very sick at the time, suffering from the heat, ended up dying. It was a nightmare. On the other hand, O’Connor HVAC Inc., the contractor, was great. They were trying to reach American Home Shield to make a decision to move forward. I was calling them too to see if they’d heard anything because I wasn’t really having much success with American Home Shield at the time. AHS has also sent out other people from electricians, plumbers, to people for my heating system and they have great people that work for them in the area. I’ve always been happy with the service people that they sent over.
I’ve referred many people I know to American Home Shield because of all the good things they have done and I would highly recommend them. I’m still with them and even though I think of not being with them, I can’t imagine not having them because of how supportive they’ve been and I’m trying to let that outweigh all of it and how favorably they resolved my issue. They are a good company to be with but somebody dropped the ball by installing equipment that they didn’t have service people in the area who were licensed to work on. It’s not just finding the cheapest equipment because ultimately, it ended up causing them a lot more by having to put in a whole new different company type unit.
Hi, Linda. I regret to hear that your A/C service request was not resolved quickly and efficiently. A Social Media team member will be in contact with you to discuss your service concerns.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is easy enough. But sometimes, getting somebody out here isn't so easy. When we had the furnace situation, Hundley Plumbing did a good job when they came out. They did that Johnny on the spot. However, with the water heater claim, the contractor had to order a valve. The original claim went in May and they got the valve and got it in the 1st of September, and that was quite a while. They had problems getting the part for some reason.
The water heater and the furnace worked fine after they worked on it. But on the dishwasher, the contractor came out four times. And each time, they said something else was broken or that the part that was sent was defective. It wasn't until the fourth time that they finally ordered a new dishwasher. And when they sent the dishwasher out, the people who delivered the dishwasher wouldn't install it. They said there was some plumbing that needed to be done because the fittings were of a different size. So, I had to call back and get approval for installation. On that issue, we finally had them pay us $125. I got my own installer and I now have it in.
Overall, I'm very dissatisfied with AHS. When I call in, I have to call three or four times, and the company that they send out has to be on the line for an hour in order to get approval. That is unacceptable. Generally, I've been tempted to drop them and find somebody else. But so far, we've always gotten it resolved before it was an emergency.

I had an issue with the air conditioning and I submitted a claim online. AHS’ website was good for me. The interaction I had with the contractor varies on who comes, but the guy who took care of the air conditioning is very nice, professional, efficient, and kind. The air conditioning has been working very nice now. It worked perfectly after he came. It was quick, and neat, and perfect. The only thing is they are heftier than some of the competitors. Every time I call them, I need to pay a $70 fee. But they’re doing a great job and I would recommend them.
