I recently had a pool filter issue when it stopped working. They sent a pool man to fix, he said he could not. AHS refused to replace saying due to excessive water pressure, which was erroneous as there was no way that could be established as that was the broken part. I got a call from AHS saying refused and the excuse given. I contacted BBB and miraculously they have added storm damage (another complete fabrication) that has never been mentioned until it was pointed out excessive water pressure could not be proved as cause. I told the man from AHS I would have to get it fixed somehow and would send them the bill. My pool man did fix it and I paid him $200. I have been paying extra to AHS for decades for pool and as this is first claim I have put in. It obviously is usual wear and tear as not been replaced in all that time. AHS refuse to pay the bill.
This is second incident this year. Requested a plumber for broken pipe connection in May, 2 plumbers came neither of which would do anything unless I used their contractors to repair damage. So I have paid out $150 for absolutely nothing. Requesting $200 for repair is not excessive. You need to either get better contractors or customer service.
Good morning Lyn,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent American Home Shield experience to have the pool filter and plumbing pipe repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I have had a contract with AHS for years. It is disappointing that one has to wait on hold for 22 minutes only to have someone hang up. Called back and spoke with sales, but there is no option except to wait on hold. Currently at another 28 minutes on hold to try to resolve a problem with a service provider that is WAY less than helpful. I gave two stars because waiting on hold this long to resolve an issue that the vendor said only AHS can resolve is ridiculous! And, using providers that don't want to do anything is not acceptable.
Good afternoon Tracie,
I understand your concerns regarding the hold time that you recently experienced to speak with a customer service representative. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your most recent experience.

On 3 separate occasions I have called American Home Shield and each time my “coverage” did not cover the broken appliance or issue. 1st was our HVAC, sent out a tech who lied about the time they would arrive after I left work early and made plans to meet the vendor for service. They showed up moments before I did and then left saying he didn’t have time to wait around, leaving my wife and I without AC for another 2 days. Then second vendor who came out didn’t fix the issue but instead created a new problem and said we would have to call him back out to fix that issue on a later date. All in all terrible experience.
2nd a pipe connected to the house cracked and leaked pretty heavily. Saying that we would have to wait 3 days for service (and without water) I chose to call a plumber on my own and apply for a reimbursement from American Home Shield. Didn’t not reimburse or even notify us of any sort of resolution. Out another 500$. Thanks again AMS.
3rd similar issue as before. A pipe connected to house burst. This time with a lot more water. Having learned my lesson I chose to call AMS and follow the proper procedure. Only to have yet another vendor string us along for 2/3 days saying he couldn’t come out soon enough. (3 days without water again) Upon arriving the vendor stated that because the pipe was outside the walls of the house that AMS would not cover the repair... Knowing that I have had enough of not having water I chose to have the plumber fix the issue. Out yet another $500 to fix something that was supposed to be covered in my American HOME Shield warranty.
This product/coverage is simply put thievery, they charge you and then refuse to cover anything. Simply put don’t waste your money, your time, or anything on this terrible company. If I could go back and tell myself to never trust such a crooked company I would but instead I warn you pleasant few who take time to check reviews. Look else where. And the real reason I want to write such a scathing review is because after battling and trying to wade through all of the issues I’ve experienced, they call me asking me to renew my coverage... After doing nothing for me you want something from me? The nerve. Do not buy.
Good morning Bryan,
I am one of the social media specialist at American Home Shield and I would be glad to speak with you regarding your experience. I understand that on three separate occasions your service has not fulfilled your expectations resulting in non covered cost to have the issues repaired. I would be glad to get those issues resolved.

I have been paying for my home warranty for 4 years now. Today I called because my water heater is broken and we have no hot water. I told them I have children in the house and we can’t go without hot water. They told me that it’s not an important enough problem to put it as expedited and I would have to wait 3-4 days for someone to get out here. How is no hot water not important? They refused to get someone out here sooner and then hung up on me when I asked to speak to a manager. Horrible customer service.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I have been in retail for 25 years and the one thing that can lose a customer is promises made and never completed. I was given a discount when I renewed this year not much but $70. I have spent the last 2 months trying to get that credited to my account. 6 different customer service reps saying they would get it taken care of. Confirmation number given to me that mean nothing because there is no follow through by these reps. Could training be the problem or the fact that they just do not care. Tired of getting past due letters. Seems those can get taken care of and sent out but no such luck with any other resolution. Supervisor is saying he will get this handled so I will see if the follow through is any better than the rest of them!
Good morning Kathy,
I am one of the social media specialist with American Home Shield and I would be glad to speak with you. It is my goal to assist and get the issue regarding the $70 credit placed onto your account.

We have two open service requests. One is minor: a pipe leak. We requested service 9/21/2018. Today is 10/8/2018 and the small pipe leak is still not fixed. Also on 9/21/2018, we requested service on a refrigerator. AHS has sent two different contract companies and three separate service visits and the fridge is still nowhere near fixed. In between each service visit, I called to ask how to simply get a replacement fridge since I only have 1 fridge and have food spoilage, high eating out bills. The call center employees could not fluently speak English and would not transfer me to someone who could nor transfer to a supervisor. I had no choice but to wait for the next service. In the 3 service visits for the fridge, the contractors have replaced 2 parts and have spent 6 hours in my home.
Finally, 2 days ago I speak to a fluent English speaker who can effectively communicate to me. She asked why I did not request a cashout - essentially ask for the cash required to repair and purchase a new appliance with that cashout. I told her I was unaware of this and when I specifically asked for how to get a replacement fridge - that I'm willing to pay extra $$$ if I can just get cost to repair - and NO ONE answered my questions.
Now, it's too late for a cashout because the expensive parts are bought. The final piece wrong with the fridge is a 5-inch leak in the line to the compressor. The technician told me he is unlikely to be able to fix it because it's surrounded by plastic and he needs to weld it in place. However, AHS 3 days later - still HAS NOT reviewed his diagnosis and will likely require him to try - pushing any sort of repair or replacement of the fridge out another 6-7 business days.
All in all, it will have taken them 19 days to fix a sink leak and probably closer to 30-45 days to fix a refrigerator. At that point, it's cheaper for me to replace the fridge myself because of the cost of eating out and trying to keep a cooler with ice. AHS does not care about the customer. They only care about saving money and will not work with you to get your home back in order. They hire about 50/50 English fluent workers and chances are your questions when you call in will NOT be adequately answered. Use an A+ rated warranty company instead of AHS.
Good morning Jacinda,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have your refrigerator and leak repaired in a timely manner. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the issues resolved.

All potential customers beware! It took me calling this company 4 times in order to get my refrigerator repair on the list! I went a total of 10 days waiting for a repairman, there still isn't one but finally I called GE and one is scheduled. Each time I called I was on hold for more than 30 minutes and was assured a repairman would be there. Then on the day he was scheduled I called GE and I wasn't on the list and it's impossible to leave feedback or contact a supervisor. This company is honestly more into collecting their money than customer satisfaction! BEWARE!!!

HORRIBLE Service in the Hampton Roads Area: AHS chooses the worst contractors to work on homeowners' appliances. My AC unit was leaking. I requested service and a contractor was dispatched the following day to my home. The contractor said that my coils were dirty and he had to clean them. I cleaned them before he arrived so I know that he was not telling me the truth. The AC unit continued to leak after he left, so I contacted the contractor again!!! They returned the next day and attempted to stop the leak by patching it with some type of substance. My 13 year old son could have played arts and crafts with my unit and would have replicated what the contractor did. This is embarrassing and a complete ripoff.
Today is October 7, 2018 and my unit is STILL leaking. Now it has soaked into my carpet!!! I requested service AGAIN and AHS is going to send the same contractor to my home to fix the issues although I know that it is not going to get fixed. I have had numerous issues with this company and after tonight, I am going to cancel my service with them. I am also going to contact a REAL AC contractor to fix my unit. Homeowners do not have money to throw away but AHS seems to think that we do. I had to find a way to email them about this issue and they hardly ever answer their phone. AHS enjoys the money that we provide them but they do not take care of their customers. Save your money and find another home warranty company.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The squirrel cage fan around the blower motor on my AC had some broken blades and I submitted a claim for it online with American Home Shield. That is how I usually submit my claims and the online submission process was easy to go through. But I wished that they would allow me to select certain contractors that I wanted the call to go out to versus some other ones.
I've had issues in the past with a contractor that sent guys out who did not thoroughly inspect to make sure that the one problem they found was the only problem that generated the service request. They just put a Band-Aid solution on the issue, then I had to call them back to come out another two or three times. Initially, that was the contractor that AHS assigned the repair work to, so I called back to get them to switch to another contractor, D&G Service, which is one of three service companies that I prefer to come out. I wanted the repair work done right the first time and I like that D&G is very thorough. D&G came out and replaced the squirrel cage fan and since then the AC has been working wonderfully.

The faucet in the bathroom was leaking and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. They sent someone out and the person who came ordered one hot water cartridge and another one for the cold water. He stated that once the cartridges get replaced, that should solve the problem. The cartridges were ordered a couple of weeks later. They sent another service technician out and once the cartridges were installed, the technician checked and saw that there were no more leaks. He told me to contact AHS if I had any problems and they would send another technician out if the problem persists. Two hours after he left, I still had dripping water.
I notified American Home Shield and they sent another technician out. When the technician got here, he ran some tests and he said that the problem wasn’t from the cartridges themselves but from the faucet. Every time I cut the faucet on and off, it stores water inside the valve or the faucet so I end up having a drip from that. It was irreparable and it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. Even if they did cover it, we would have to get our top of the line faucets replaced and if AHS would replace them, it would be with low grade ones so that was something I would probably wanna look into doing ourselves. At that point, he stated that there wasn’t a charge for coming because the problem wasn’t resolved the first time.
Three days later, I got a phone call from AHS saying they got the report from the service technician and he said that he didn’t have to repair anything. So, they were gonna have to charge me for that visit. I told them that was totally unfair. The second technician they had come out didn’t have to repair anything so they passed the cost to me. I wouldn’t have a problem with paying the cost if the first technician changed the cartridges out, explained where the drip was coming from and told me that there was nothing they could do about it. If I would have called for another technician to come out, then I would have accepted the deal. They sent a technician out and he had me under the impression that the problem was resolved but it was not. That was the request for the second technician to come out.
The AHS agent I was talking to also stated that the technician who came out the second time, did the test and found that the problem was the valves in the faucet was the same technician that came out and noted something on the account. I told him that was false and it wasn’t even the same technician who came out. The one who installed the cartridges was one person and the one who came out the second time was a totally different person. I said that I didn’t understand what they were trying to pull because it was totally unacceptable and I would not be paying $75 since it was unfair.
I shouldn’t have to pay another service fee if they sent professional people out to my house. I followed protocol and I was being punished. The interaction when I sent the claim was good but the service was not finished and I was not provided great customer service from American Home Shield regarding this whole situation. I’m going to cancel my membership and I would not refer anyone to them.
Hello, Dennis. I apologize that you have had this billing issue with your service request. A Social Media team member will contact you to assist you further.

The spinning cycle on our washing machine went out of balance and it was fixed. It stopped doing the issue for a while and it came back again. I put four towels in and it went out of balance. Although I like talking to a person, I submitted the claim a second time through the machine on the phone. The contractor that was sent out was excellent, but the damn washing machine is beginning to have a problem again. Overall, American Home Shield has been wonderful and I'd recommend them.

I went to American Home Shield's website and submitted a claim for the duct issues I was having. They came back to me and let me know that they were gonna send somebody out. Wyatt's Air Conditioning came out and they were super good. They were very professional, knew what they were doing and were quick to respond. They did a good job of evaluating the unit and they did it without interfering with my daily routine. They told me that the biggest problem with my air condition was that it's an old system. I've had an air conditioner and electrical business in the past so I knew what they were talking about and they didn't try to snub on me or tell me that I had to do this or that. They did what was necessary. They also did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and I'd recommend them to anybody.

My garage door opener wasn't opening or closing and when you pushed the button, it just hummed. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was very easy. I went online, filled up the information, and within a day, I got a text message from the folks who were gonna come out and repair it. A day later, the tech came out and after telling him that the garage door opener wouldn't budge, he went up and worked with it.
There was some kind of bolt stuck that he was able to get free then he fixed it so it wouldn't get stuck again. He knew his way around garage door openers and was able to take care of it in a minimum amount of time. Since the repair, the garage door opener has been working really well. Having a warranty on my property saves me several hundred dollars a year. But over time, it would probably save me a couple of thousand dollars when large things break. Also, I tell my neighbors that I use AHS for quite some time now and I like the service.

All my family uses American Home Shield so when I bought my first house recently, I turned to them. My most recent claim to them was for my refrigerator that was leaking from the water filter, from the tubing behind it. Everything went really smoothly. The response was quick. The contractor was out there in one or two days. The technician was very courteous and clean. He put on his little shoe slipper and made sure he wasn’t scratching the floor. He also went the extra mile and made sure my ref got fixed the same day. The part that he was going to order was gonna take a long time and we both agreed to just put in a cool, nice, little elbow to fix it. The repair was great. Coming from a repair background in mechanic, the way he thought about it was good. Instead of waiting a week or so for that one piece, what he had on his truck was basically the same thing. It was a great way of going about it, but he made sure I knew exactly what he was doing.

I called American Home Shield's 800 number to submit claims since we had two issues at the same time. Both the heating element of our dishwasher and the freezer in our refrigerator weren't working. The claims rep that I spoke with was friendly and seemed really knowledgeable. The tech replaced the computer board in the dishwasher. But the refrigerator was so old that the contractor couldn’t get the parts for it, so they replaced it with new one which obviously works great. Having a warranty on my property is valuable. I’ve been carrying my warranty with AHS for a year because that’s how long I’ve lived in that house and I’m very satisfied with the experience that I've had with them. I’d tell my friends to give AHS a call.

When my pool pump wasn't working, I had to go to Home Depot and buy some chlorine shock. I had poor chlorine in the pool. We have a waterworks for flood and we used that to separate the water. I couldn’t use the chlorinator as it wasn’t working. I had to chlorinate via another means and it added some extra work for those four days. I submitted a claim for the pool pump to American Home Shield and the process was fairly easy. Doing it online was easier than by phone. I just had to click the pool pump from a dropdown menu and describe my problem. I was notified two hours after that and they sent a text saying a contractor has been called.
The contractor called me and they were out here the next day which was Thursday. I met them outside and showed them the problem. The guy said he’d call me back to let me know when the part would be in and he did what he said. They ordered the part then he showed up on a Tuesday afternoon. We chatted for a little bit and he replaced the part. Now, the pump is performing well. I’ve always been skeptical with warranties but American Home Shield is changing my perception of it. It’s really impressive for them to get somebody typically within a day or two. The worst I’ve had was two days for the AC, but that was in the middle of the summer which was understandable.

The spin cycle kept banging the tub of the washing machine, so I knew the balancer was off. I submitted a claim with AHS, which I've been doing mostly online, and their website was pretty simple enough to navigate through. As soon as I submitted the request, I got an email back and someone called me shortly. I took off four hours from work that day and I requested the afternoon time for the contractor to show up because they always say between 8 and 12 or 12 to 5 but I needed them to be more specific. So, the person on the other end said they'd get to me at the last hour which was the 12 to 5 that I told them to. But they never showed up.
Then the contractor called and asked to reschedule, but I said that was not possible. Their guy was running late and I was there waiting for him and he didn't want to come. Then guy called and asked me to explain the problem to him. So, I gave him an assessment. He also wanted me to take a picture of my model number then he ordered the part and another guy came to replace the part. So the washing machine got fixed, but I called American Home Shield to file a claim for the return of the $75 service fee. What the contractor did was not the same thing as a service call. I could just call straight to the company and ask them what the problem was in order to fix it myself. But the rep I talked to said that she couldn't do anything about it, so she directed it to someone higher and they said they'd send me a check back.
I also had a problem with my air conditioning unit and this was the fourth time it got fixed. I was away in Vegas for work over the summer and a guy came out with an apprentice. He told my wife that what needed to be fixed and that it was gonna take 10 days to fix it. I told them there was no problem with that but during that time, he tried to say that they could replace the unit cheaper than what AHS could do. So I called AHS up and said that that was not right. Even my wife wouldn’t give an answer. Then, when I came back from my trip, I took off for another couple of hours from my work for that service call and the guy always seemed to show up at the last minute. So, I told him that I gotta get back to work and asked how long it was gonna take. He said it was gonna take two hours and told me to just leave the air conditioning unit on and it'd be okay.
So, I left. But I forgot to close my garage door, so I came around and the guy was already done. So, I asked him to explain to me what he did because he told me he'd be done in two hours. He said the problem was just a burned wire. But he told him that based on his diagnostics check, it was a condenser which was gonna take 10 days to fix. Before that, when I told him to tell AHS to just replace the whole unit, he said that "No, we're an honest company, blah, blah, blah." Then all of a sudden, this turned up and I was so mad. All in all, AHS is great but who they pick for contractors is a different story and I got so many bad experiences with them.

A drain clogged and I filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield. But I didn't hear anything from the original company that they assigned the claim to, so I called in. AHS then reassigned the claim to The Lindsay Company who were able to do the fix on the same day. I paid for the service call at the time that I made the service request but AHS assigned those funds to the company that never showed up. So, I’ve been getting a past due notice ever since on the $125. I've called about four times for that and I don't love that I'm getting a call center that's in another country. There's always a language barrier related to that. I had a more recent claim with my air conditioner that I couldn't do online because even though everybody tells me this $125 past due is taken care of, it still blocks my account from any online request.

I had a couple of issues at my home and Gator Drain and Plumbing came out. The very first issue was a leak in the faucet in the master bedroom and the first guy Gator sent just sealed it up. Also, there was black, rubbery stuff coming out of the bathtub right beside the sink. I said to him that I wanted to make sure those issues were not related, but he wouldn’t check in to see if they were related or not. He sealed it up and since then, I had that rubbery stuff that came out again. He was absolutely terrible and rude and that was when I said to Gator that I didn’t want them again.
They sent me a new guy, Jimmy, and he was fabulous. He checked everything and had to keep an eye on the issue. The issue is not quite finished yet, but American Home Shield rectified the situation. I’ve had the issue about a week and a half ago and I took a video if it. I got some of those black stuff that came through the bathtub faucet, although it is not as bad as the first time.
I still haven’t closed out the claim because they will only pay for a standard faucet, and I had to buy two because it’s a double vanity. The standard faucets offset the 500 some dollars I spend on the two and I need to have them look at the back of it to figure out what’s going on and why those rubbery bits are coming out, and that’s when it closes out. I love American Home Shield. I’m a realtor and I totally get my listings and my buyers keep AHS. I refer them all the time. They’ve always been good to me and they’ve been good for my clients in their issues. Everything has been great. I especially recommend AHS on investment property. I always tell my neighbors to get American Home Shield and I tell them the service is excellent and the return on investments is good. Especially if they are a seasonal resident, it gives them peace of mind.

We closed the garage door, it bounced right back up and it kept doing it. You had to hold the button down and sometimes that still wouldn't do it. It got so bad that you had to hold the button down inside the garage and then go out through the front door. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for repair. They are one of the better companies I like dealing with on the phone and I've always had good interaction with their reps.
I got a fairly instantaneous text, since I got off the phone, on who the contractor was. He called me that same day and set up an appointment. It was just a matter of my availability and he was willing to come out that evening. He talked to my wife and he told her what the problem was. He looked at it and fixed it, but then it still had another issue. It wasn't doing it as bad, but it would do it every five times. He came back out, did some other adjustments and I've never had any issues since. Since then, it has worked better than it ever has. A lot of the other home warranties don't provide the coverage that AHS does, not without adding on more money. AHS is the most economical as far as 100% coverage of every appliance and I even have water softener coverage on mine. They have saved me a lot of money too.

I've had long waiting periods with American Home Shield, being put on hold for 40 minutes and then getting through to somebody. One time there was an overcharge on one of the claims, and I had the representative say, "We'll delete that and give you a credit" three times, and then I'd have to explain it to somebody new all over again. It's the same way with my name. My name has been misspelled from the beginning, and everybody said they would fix it but it's still misspelled.
My most recent claim was for the microwave and the oven problem. I submitted it over the phone and that particular one wasn't hard because I was already on the line for an oven follow-up. I explained to the rep about our microwave problems, and she just added that to it. It took somebody from Sears two weeks to come out, and when they did, I had explained to the lady rep that this wasn't an over-the-stove microwave but an above-the-counter in a cabinet space. She said, "As long as it's not on the counter, it's covered." Then when the tech came out, he said, "It is above the counter, but it's still a counter microwave. We can't cover it." It was too bad that he came out and it wasn't covered when I had explained the difference already. He didn't service it 'cause to do so, he said I would have to pay out of pocket, and it was cheaper just to buy one.
When we first moved in to our house, we did not have a refrigerator that worked. The techs tried to put in three different parts, but it seemed like it would take a three-week turnaround before another part would come in. They'd come out and try to install it, and that wouldn't work. After two and a half months, they finally replaced the refrigerator. So, we went two and a half months without the refrigerator working. Overall though, given the circumstances that we had just moved and they quickly worked with us for all the repairs we called in, they handled things to the best of their ability. We have friends who had broken refrigerators with companies that were under warranty and waited eight months to have their refrigerator replaced. So, waiting two and a half months sounds a lot better than eight months.
The only thing I didn't quite understand was when we had air conditioning problems, AHS was sending a company that was about two hours away from us. When that company couldn't service a wall unit that we had, AHS sent another company that was within 15 minutes of us. That company was more professional than the first one. We had to wait a week for the company that was two hours away to have other customers in our area to come out our way. Otherwise, all the servicemen that have come out have been professional.

American Home Shield is a very good service. They give us peace of mind knowing that there’s somebody out there that’s gonna take care of home issues. It’s nice to hand those off to someone else for them to make the calls and arrange the appointments. We just purchased our home and the appliances are failing one at a time. We had water that comes out of the refrigerator door and it froze inside the door, so they had that fixed. We also had the pump go out of our washing machine and they had someone come out for that. Then we had the dishwasher quit working and they again sent someone out for that. So, we’ve had several calls recently. Hopefully, they come in threes and that’s the last thing.
Our experience in submitting claims is great. When we called, they promptly sent somebody out. There were no troubles, hiccups or problems at all. Everything went smoothly. We also had wonderful interactions with the contractors. When the dishwasher went out, the first guy who came basically unplugged it and plugged it back in and said that the little computer module needed to reboot. But that did not fix it. So the next day we were to use it, it did not work again and was doing the same thing. Another gentleman came out and he went through the whole process. He was very thorough with it. He was here for a good hour or better and he figured out what was wrong with the dishwasher. Then it has been working fine ever since. Overall, everything worked out well.

I really like American Home Shield. Their online claims process is very easy. I filed a claim for my air conditioner and they responded through email. The contractors that they sent out were great. He was early, very polite and very informative as far as what the issue was, what they were gonna do. He had the parts on hand and completed the job the same day. He was for there 45 minutes. The air conditioning works great now. American Home Shield is a very good company and it’s worth it. I’ve already recommended them to several people.

All the representatives at American Home Shield are very nice and very helpful but it takes at least an hour to get a hold of them. Both my ACs, the main one and the one in the bedroom, broke so I had a claim for both of them. And this last time I tried to get ahold of AHS, it was like 35 minutes. They have the option to call me back and when they do, I call back, press one, and then I'm on hold for another 20 minutes. I used to have a company called Total Protect which was in mom and pop’s smaller place but the service is a little bit easier to deal with.
Then, the company that AHS used for the AC took two to three days to come to the house from when I placed the call. And they had to order a part and AHS didn’t help in any way. I told AHS my husband can send a driver and I can go pick up the part to speed up the process. They told me that I wasn’t a priority because I have two ACs. I had an argument and I had them transfer me to the lady that does the ordering of the appointments and she told me that was how it is and they have their procedure. We had to wait a week for the part and it was horrible in our home. The bedroom one doesn’t cool the house and I have a two story house which heat rises and the house kinda heats more. The technician was very polite and very sweet, though, and so far, AHS has been okay, although I don’t know about renewing with them.

The washer was retaining water so we called American Home Shield. They set up an appointment with somebody that didn't service the claim. AHS is like an insurance thing for the appliances and it's valuable. I’ve already recommended them to a couple people.

Some of the burners of our stovetop had worn out and it was replaced. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was easy and everyone involved did a good job. But there was tremendous confusion between AHS, the company hired to deliver the product and the local contractor hired to install the stovetop, about which part of the process was who's responsibility. The whole claim took over a month to complete so it was a bit difficult to prepare a meal during that time. Nevertheless, I'm generally positive about American Home Shield. It's overall a good value for me as a homeowner.

Our garbage disposal wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and the reps I spoke to were very good. They answered my questions and they told me that they were gonna call somebody. That somebody then called back quickly, so it worked out well. It didn't work, so he replaced the unit that same day.

I had an easy and quick experience when I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my doorbell and back outlet. I did that online and navigating through their website was simple and self-explanatory. A contractor came out in a couple of days. The tech was great and very friendly. He got in and went right to work to fix the problems and everything has been operating great since the repair.
I've learned from experience to put claims together if you have more than one claim that fall under the same category. So, if you have an electrical issue, you might as well wait for another electrical issue before filing a claim because you would only be paying one deductible then, whereas if you do it twice then you'd be paying the deductible twice. The rates of AHS are affordable and I’d recommend them to people.

I like American Home Shield warranty and would not choose another company. I've had AHS for years with my other home and anybody that they sent out was knowledgeable. However, the company they sent out to fix my geothermal unit had to come back within 30 days because the heat was rising in the home and the air couldn’t keep up with it, which was impossible. The contractor didn’t correct the problem and just temporarily doctored it because they couldn’t figure out the problem. The first guy never even took the time to look at the unit. They then detected that the Schrader valve was dead. Had the guy looked the first time, he would have realized that. Nonetheless, the contractor came back and corrected the mistake. I have recommended AHS to other people looking for a home warranty company and told them American Home Shield's reasonable with competitive prices and outstanding service.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator that was not working. I did it online and they called. A contractor came out and fixed the refrigerator. However, I didn’t have a good experience with this company. Supposedly, they changed some parts, but it still didn't work. We called and requested them again, but it's been 10 days and I haven't heard back from them. I then called American Home Shield and we got somebody else to come in and do the work, and we’re waiting for a part.
The only complaint that I have against American Home Shield is that I ended up spending out of my pocket for an issue with my pool heater a few months back even though I’m paying for services. We had three people come out and they gave me a ridiculous excuse of what was going on with the pool heater. They said a rodent urinated on the motherboard, which is an impossible thing because there’s no way for a rodent to go inside that place. Only a cockroach can get in there and urinate on it. Also, I don’t know how they can tell a rat’s urine from anybody else’s. The part is built for outside as well, so if it's under the rain, nothing would go wrong with it.
I called the department in American Home Shield that goes back and looks at the claim and they said that they couldn't do anything because it was a rodent issue. I told them that they were not sending people who knew what they were doing. I asked them to bring those guys back and show me where it is, and nobody bothered to do that. And until this day, nobody could prove to me how a rat urinated on the motherboard. I called a company directly and in less than a minute, they told me exactly what was wrong with the motherboard. They said it wasn't urine. I ended up purchasing it and fixing it on my own.

J&A South came out to address our electrical issue in the bathroom after we lodged a claim to American Home Shield. They came out and fixed the light that came over the medicine cabinet, and I was pleased with what they did. We’ve dealt with J&A a couple of times, and I haven’t had any problems with them. The tech was there on time, and he did what he had to do. There was no mess, too.
However, on our microwave claim, American Home Shield sent out RAS, which I was not happy with. The unit could not be fixed so we had a new one and RAS was supposed to bring and install it. They called and gave me a window from 2:00 to 7:00. At 7:30, they were not here, so I called and they said, “Oh, well, they never put it on the truck because it was damaged.” I then asked, when it comes in, if we can be put at the top of the list since I’ve already done all the waiting. They told me, “No. That is something about their scheduling.”
She said that she would call on a certain day, but she did not call to let me know whether we could be early. Then, they put us late again, same hour, 3:00 to 7:00. At 7:10, I called, and these guys were supposed to be off at 7:00, and told them, “You have to deliver this.” They were off the clock. There were supposed to be finished. The guys were good. It was just that whoever did that scheduling was poor. I even told the Better Business Bureau that I don’t ever want RAS to do anything for me. Other than that, I have no trouble with it. AHS takes the complaints and they give me the name of the company that is coming out, and they came and did what they had to do.

Problem with heating system, called American Home Shield, requested repair. They sent me information on Dolce Heating and Repair that they would contact me within 24 hours. The repair was lodged in September 20th. After 36 hours no call back. Called American Home Shield Friday. They sent out email to Dolce Repair. Service coordinator explained if I didn’t hear from Dolce to call back. Naturally no call so Saturday called American Home Shield. Spoke to agent in customer service. She put me on hold stating that she was calling them. After 10 minutes on hold she returned to our call stating that she could not reach them but left a message. She assured me that I would get a call back shortly.
Sunday no call. Very cold in my house. Called local contractor, came to my house Monday to repair the heating system $700.00. Tuesday afternoon Dolce called to say that they couldn’t come out until Wednesday. I advised them that I had system repaired by another contractor and that their services were not needed. I check my contract today with American Home Shield and they charged me for a service that was never done. I have been with the company for 16 years. They are horrible to deal with. For starters, you will be on hold for very long periods while requesting services, they have HORRIBLE vendors, very limited options and every service will take a minimum of 3 weeks to get checked - if so! I had signed up early August 2018 and just tried to cancel membership now, early October 2018. I needed to get a leak checked on my oil furnace, which requested a couple of days after signing up and, TO THIS DATE I haven't had any "technician" come up. Instead, I had the assigned vendor claim he had come and diagnosed the problem when they had NEVER SHOWED UP. The $100 Dollar service fee was charged on my credit card without even getting the service requested.
Even after calling American Home Shield SEVERAL times (at least once per week) to check on the status of the appointment (and being on average on the phone for 1h30 EACH time), I was promised vendor would call when they never did. When I called vendor, they insisted they knew nothing about my claim through AHS. Tried to get a refund on that service fee that never happened and, after being 2h on the phone - which most of it was on hold - and they did not revert the charge, I decided to cancel the membership. Also, I was promised to receive a confirmation of membership cancellation which I did not.
The big issue here is that EVERYTHING is done through the telephone. You cannot do anything except request service (and have to pay right away) through their website. You cannot contact them through email to keep a paper trace of communication over issues with customer service and have to repeat yourself a million times over to the next representative. And having no way to have some sort of written proof or communication becomes a problem. Maybe they do it on purpose so it is harder to have proof of what they promise and never deliver. Also, a detail copy of contract of what's covered and what's not is not automatically provided unless you argue over something they say it's covered when you sign up and actually don't cover after you have an issue. IT'S A SCAM!!! DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY!!!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My biggest complaint with AHS is that they send out horrible vendors and the customer service aspect leaves a ton to be desired. There's no option to contact online and can only be done over the phone. It takes forever to actually reach someone and although they are nice, they obviously don't enjoy their jobs and it seems to lead to a lack of concern in regards to the person on the other end. Having other home warranty providers in the past, AHS is the worst I've ever experienced. As the title says I am not one who likes writing bad reviews but my experience with AHS was so bad that it warranted one. If you are interested my completely honest non-exaggerated experience is below.
I paid for their service for well over a year without making a service call and received a rate hike after the year was up which I wasn't made aware would happen. So what? Lots of companies do that. Last week however on a Sunday my A/C seemed to be struggling running constantly to keep temperature at 80 degrees. I decided to put in a request online which was very easy to do. I got a call Monday from the company they contracted to tell me that they would be unable to do the repair as they didn't have an extended height ladder to get to my roof. Ok, fair enough. Odd to hire someone not capable of the job but whatever. I went ahead and called AHS and was on hold for 30-40 minutes until someone answered. The woman was nice but didn't seem to be able to keep up with me.
After an additional 30 minutes she confirmed that she set up a new company and told them about my roof access needs. I called the new company immediately to schedule which we did for the following day. Funny thing is they said they were unaware that there were access concerns. They cancelled due to inclement weather and said they'd come out the next day. They did just to tell me that they won't be able to access the roof either. They said they would send someone out the following day with the right equipment. They never did and after that I called AHS again hoping they would move the needle on this issue as I had been without working A/C for nearly a week.
The woman on the phone this time was much more helpful but I still had to wait 30+ minutes to talk to her. She scheduled ANOTHER company and gave me their info. I looked them up online and literally every review talked about how they stole parts and drove up repair costs through AHS EXCLUSIVELY! I cancelled my repair request immediately and made the call to cancel my service. I live in Mesa, Arizona so maybe the service is just bad here but I have no idea how AHS is the #1 company. I can't get away from them fast enough.

American Home Shield warranty came with the purchase of our new home in April 2018. Shortly after we had moved in, I noticed a spot in the dining room ceiling that looked damp. It happened to be under the master shower. Being an experienced homeowner, I was about to do it myself, however, I figured I would check out my home warranty. I was covered with only a $75 service fee.
American Home Shield dispatched Stilwell Plumbing to fix the leak. After four visits from four different Stilwell plumbers, the shower drain still leaks. The day after the last plumber was here, it leaked the next morning. I have been working crazy hours out of town, and was unable to call AHS. Now that I have finally called, I am stuck with another $75 service fee because I waited more than sixty days to call. When I asked how they could close out the prior claim with the hole still in my ceiling, the AHS associate said that some other contractor was supposed to have fixed it. Well, I said that never happened.
We live out in the middle of nowhere, I figured that the first $75 fee would have been cheaper than a couple of runs to the Home Depot, now I'm gonna be in it for $150. I probably will not renew my home warranty with AHS. I may look at another warranty provider next April. I will say, the AHS associates seem friendly, however, it is hard to contact them online except to file a claim. I wanted to send them an email. This review is the only way I have found to send a message. Good luck to those who have a home, and a warranty, I hope you do not need to use the warranty, but if you do, be prepared to make several, long phone calls.

We had a washing machine that stopped working. AHS sent two different companies. The first one who came diagnosed it as having a maintenance issue and that we were supposed to have been the ones that would remove the cone and the post that it was attached to, and remove the drum. Once he left, we called AHS back and said that didn’t sound like that was something that should be typical maintenance for people. The individual with Home Shield thankfully agreed, and they sent out someone else.
That individual did take a look at it and said there was no way that this would be considered a typical maintenance issue by an owner. He contacted American Home Shield and gave them the estimate for repairing that. AHS had decided that they were gonna leave it with us as to whether we wanted to go ahead and go with option A, which would be to go ahead and repair it, or option B, which was the one that actually was the least expensive all in all, which was to take cash towards another machine. We went with that option B. We sent a copy of the invoice from the local appliance dealer to American Home Shield, so that kind of sped things up a bit, which was great. It was still about three weeks before we got the check, but that didn’t delay us as far as going out and purchasing a new machine.
Also there was quite a bit of time left on hold to be able to not only get to the individuals that we needed, but then also, once we would get the right individual, then they would need to put us on hold, as they were consulting with others in a same or different department. But ultimately, it was very satisfactory because it worked out in our favor. We’ve got friends that we’ve recommended AHS to, and friends that we didn’t even know that they even had a home warranty. We both sing praises and are happy that we got the same coverage.

On the day that I was supposed to be moving in the house, the plumbing where the washer and dryer were taken out was leaking. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and it was great talking to their rep. I wanted the contractor to come out that day to stop the leak but it was impossible. He wasn’t able to come out until that Tuesday at 2:00. By that time, the washer and dryer had come in and have been plugged in.
The contractor came on time but he didn’t do anything because the washer and dryer were in and the leak was gone. It looked like where the water comes in from the faucet was just leaking, so a plastic bottle was put in there to direct the water down the drain. I informed American Home Shield about that and they said they were gonna call the contractor and talk to them. So far, it's always been a good experience with American Home Shield. The warranty is great to have because you never know if something’s gonna happen.

Our air conditioner wasn't working right. The exterior of the air conditioner was incredibly hot and it wouldn't cool. I went online to file a claim and the next day, somebody did text the name of the company that was supposed to call and gave their phone number as well in case they don't call. I called and talked to them as to when they were gonna come out. They said they would come out quickly. They gave us a time and they came within that time. The technician was very nice.
When the technician got out there, looked at the AC both inside and out, and he came back and talked to us about it. He said the fan motor and some other thing were out. The unit was really old. When my husband bought the house in 1997, it had been flipped and they had put a new air conditioner on it. It was 21 years ago so it's an old product. It's a Corsaire and it turns out that that's a lower level brand of Rheem but it was not a completely undesirable product. It was just not a top-of-the-line. The technician said that he would find the parts and he'd contact me as quickly as he could and he did. They came out the next day and said that they were still looking. And then the next day, they came out and fixed the AC. So, it took three days to fix it. It was horrible though because it was so hot and I was dying. So, I went to Home Depot and bought a window air conditioner.
The contractors were really nice and they were in contact with us. The repairman explained the status of the AC and said he's gonna do his best, and they were able to find the parts. I knew they had put forth some serious effort and they fixed it as quickly as they could. I had a plumbing claim last year and the plumber that they sent out were a blood-sucking nightmare, a pig-dog from hell. That plumber that they sent last year, Mr. Rooter, was absolutely terrible. I thought they would send us some other dregs but they didn't. The contractors they recently sent out were absolutely great. So, I would use American Home Shield again.

He checked out the system and did everything he said he would do. I used to replace both the air and humidifier filter myself but he did them as part of the service and I figured, that's worth what I'm paying for. I was satisfied and I felt that the $75 fee was fair because that's what everybody else charges.
Getting AHS is a very good idea. I've also talked to other neighbors who have had AHS before me and it's one of the reasons I went to it. I've also recommended AHS to at least two people and they all took it within a month. I wasn't in a position to recommend it officially but in terms of knowing I was satisfied, I thought the financial of it worked. There was also somebody who had used AHS three years ago and they had very negative experiences. But I said I was willing to write that off as long as I don't have any negative experience.

The vendor responded within 12 hours or less and the technician came within 24 hours to look at the problem. I’m very pleased with what the vendor has done and with the responsiveness they have. I live in Houston, and it seems like it takes days, weeks or months to get any contractor to come back and talk with us. Still, with the pool heater, the vendor responded very quickly and I was happy.
The technician was good. He found out that the pool people had not put something back in the proper mode so the heater wouldn’t turn on, and I didn’t realize that. Nevertheless, the heater is working fine now. It was a very quick fix and if I’d have been smarter, I wouldn’t even have had to contact them. They made four or five trips, over a period of about six weeks, trying to fix it. They finally fixed it but my tenant told me that they seemed like they were experimenting. So, I didn't want to have them out there again.
I had another claim recently in that same kitchen and AHS scheduled Amtec again. I tried to reach AHS to tell them that I don't like that vendor. But when you submit a claim, you just get whoever's next in line. You never know what you're gonna get. You may get a great technician. You may get somebody not so great. Nonetheless, work generally gets done.
Furthermore, it was virtually impossible to get anybody at AHS. A few years ago, we used to be able to call in and get a nice person to talk to. But suddenly, we could not get anybody ever. So, I don't even bother anymore. I have two homes protected by American Home Shield and I always go online. Every time I call in and ask a question, I get the same routine about, “We’re experiencing unusually heavy call volume.” That’s nonsense because if a company had an unusually heavy call volume every time somebody calls, they’d add more staff to deal with it. I usually wait 15 or 20 minutes and I never get a response. They don’t tell you how long you will have to wait in queue before your name comes up, so I just give up on it.
This plan that was in for us when we bought the house expires in the next couple of months. I would like to renew it, but I’m not sure if I know how to. I hope that AHS doesn’t cancel this without giving me an opportunity to continue it. I also hope that they deal with things like that faster than they do with a question about coverage. I know there’s coverage for our furnace and the air conditioner, but one question I would have is if they cover the humidifiers on them. Another question I have is that this time of the year, I think about if I should get my furnace checked to make sure it’s in working order for the winter. I don't know if I should report that as a service call and if I have to pay the $75 fee if they come out, check it and find out there’s no problem.

They answered directly and they gave us the phone number of John Palma Plumbing and Heating, the company that would fix the unit. They also contacted us to make sure everything's going well. John Palma Plumbing and Heating came out and they fixed the unit for us. Since the repair, the performance of the unit has been good. We're happy with it.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for the refrigerator recently. The request for repair was made online, but all the follow-ups have been on the phone. My problem is that the refrigerator people wouldn’t fix the product. They refused to fix the refrigerator because they said that, technically, all they have to do is make sure that the ice maker and the water dispenser are working, and they are, but there’s a bigger problem than that. I had the repairman taste the water in the ice and he said that in all the years of fixing things, he has never tasted anything like it. He said that there’s something very wrong with the water and it is not drinkable or usable. But AHS just said that the refrigerator is functioning.
AHS wanted the contractor to just change the filter, but that wasn’t gonna fix the problem because we had already done that. I can’t blame the contractor because they weren’t able to do what needed to be done, but I can’t say that they did a good job because they didn't do it since AHS wouldn’t let them. By the way, the refrigerator is eight months old, so the problem is not due to wear and tear. They just failed to fix it.
Hello, Joyce. I regret to hear that you are having an issue with the way your water and ice tastes from your dispenser. A Social Media team member will contact you to further discuss your concerns.

There was a leak in the air conditioning unit and as soon as I didn’t have air upstairs, I called American Home Shield. I submitted a claim and it was simple. You just go online, tell them what you need and you can even pay your service call fee right from the website. The contractor would usually contact you on the same day.
The first contractor lied and they came back three times. They kept charging my air conditioner outside but the leak was inside. They said that my outside unit had dog urine on it which caused the leak and then caused high pressure and made a massive leak upstairs. I contacted a couple of different AC companies and in the meantime, I purchased a new outside unit because the contractor said my outside unit needed to be replaced. I called to let AHS know that I wasn’t happy with the first guy that they sent and they immediately sent somebody else out. The second one was great and fantastic. They took care of everything, and they reimbursed me for purchasing this outside unit that I didn’t need. Since then, the air conditioner has been working perfectly fine. I appreciate the diligence of AHS in doing the right thing. They would stand up about it and take care of it.

We're selling a house and I had four claims with American Home Shield. The most recent one I filed was for a plumbing issue where we had leaks and very minor repairs were needed. The submission experience could be better. I did it over the phone and there was a language barrier. It was difficult to get one of their operators to understand what the problem was so that they had an understanding of what they were dispatching. But, I was able to work through that. Potts Plumbing and Appliance was then sent to us. They claimed to have broken down on the way but I doubted that. They were the shakiest contractors that I've had out to the house. But once they arrived here, they were good. They fixed everything.

We had a claim for the sump pump in our house in Illinois. I submitted it online and it was easy with American Home Shield's website. Then, the contractor contacted us on the same day the claim was submitted and we arranged for the tech to come out the next day. He was very professional and didn’t waste any time. There had been a lot of rain and so we picked up the groundwater until one pump had quit working. He replaced the pump and it was fine. Our experience with AHS has been pretty good over the years. They're a good reputable company compared to the other home warranty companies. When we bought a house, we were given a home warranty policy with the home and we immediately switched it over to AHS because the first claim with the other company was very difficult to take care of and the contractor didn’t want to. He said that he never gets to reimburse from that other company.

The heating element of the dryer went out. When we submitted the claim, a guy came out really quick but he had to order a part. He said he'd be back when the part gets here. The part was shipped to our house, which we felt was strange. The first one was bent so we had to wait for another one. We called the contractor and said that the part's here, 'cause we didn't know if they had any way of tracking it. They said that they called in to our switchboard and that they would be here on a Friday but we haven't received any notice that anybody was coming.
The American Home Shield operator said that we have to call the repair place to find out when they're coming. After we'd already been scheduled, we'd never got a confirmation that the contractor was going to be there. And so, AHS had to set us up for three days later. At that time, we've been going to the Laundromat for three weeks. AHS had us call Sears and Sears didn't open that late. We'd call them and say that here's what we have. They said they didn't have anything down. It was just confusing and there was no communication. They sent the first guy which was a bigger one and the dryer is in a tough place, so they didn't send him back. They sent a skinnier guy and he did a great job.
Sometimes, the contractors are idiots, but American Home Shield is usually really good. They're the only one that covers air-conditioning and the dryers. If I had to go out and buy that part then pay the regular service fee, it would've been several hundred dollars instead of $100. It saves money and the older the house gets, the more money it saves one.

AHS also has Anthem and unfortunately, the low of the low sometimes gets picked for vendors with these home warranties and that's not just AHS. It's with Fidelity, First American or anybody, and Anthem Air Conditioning was the low of the lows. I had a horrible experience with them and I'd never use them again. But the repair ended up taking him a little longer than he expected and what was worse was that the AC broke down again two weeks later.
When I called the company again, though, they told me that the repair service wasn’t gonna cost me anything more because it was the same AC that would be fixed. Obviously, there was something that the tech should have handled the first time. The technician came back out and cleaned the AC, which he didn't clean out enough the first time he came. He was here for quite a while, but he fixed the AC and it has been working fine since then. The oven wouldn't work and the panel kept getting an error message. I went online to submit a claim with AHS and their website was pretty straightforward, but if there are any questions or if you have more than one issue, you can't do it online. You gotta call the number. American Home Shield designated somebody in their system and they called me and set up the time to come look at the oven. Then they evaluated the situation and told me what they found. They tried to find a part but they couldn't, so I got a call from the appliance replacement division and they gave me some choices.
I took the recommended choice, they delivered the new oven, then they took the plate off to connect it then installed it. And for some reason, they couldn't do it. They said that it was an element connection from the house to the appliance and they could only do copper. The people that AHS sent out to install the oven should be qualified to install it, regardless, and I'm dissatisfied with that part a lot. So, I have a double oven in a box sitting in my dining room. And after I turned the power off and back on, my old oven has been working sporadically. And I was told by the appliance replacement division that I have to get an electrician to come out and change the connection, then American Home Shield will send somebody to install the oven.
Overall, AHS did their part but they sent somebody out who was incompetent with working with the electricity. In the meantime, my dishwasher has been leaking. So the oven is on the back-burner because I filed a claim with my homeowners insurance and they're coming in and they gotta replace the cabinets and a whole bunch of stuff. So the installation of the new oven is gonna have to wait because the leak that I have in my kitchen takes priority.

But they didn't call me to say that they were not coming because they couldn't get the part. I called the company and they said that the techs would come the next Monday, but that Monday was a holiday. When I called back on Monday, I asked where the techs were and the rep said that they would be here the next day. Then the tech came and fixed the problem.
It was not just this contractor that had this issue. There seems to be a lot of this issue with plumbing and cable companies. There were times when the contractors made an appointment and told me that the techs were gonna be here between certain hours. Then when those hours came and went, they didn't call me. They seemed to feel like their time is the only one that's valuable.
I like AHS but they've gotten to be more expensive. I looked into Choice and they're cheaper. But I'm afraid of changing companies because the new warranty company that I switch to can promise me the moon but that doesn't mean that I'm gonna get it. On the other hand, I've been with AHS for a lot of years and I stay with them because I know them. They've contacted me fairly quickly and they've sent people out. But it seems they don't have any control over the contractor getting out within a timely fashion. When I had problems with the washing machine, it took a week or two for the contractor to come out. Fortunately, this time, the contractor came out the next day.

He also scolded me nicely on a few things like how I needed to clean out the vent lint and what I could do to make the dryer more efficient. He did a great job and since he left, the dryer has worked beautifully. One time, I put clothes in the dryer and in less than two or three minutes, my daughter asked if I could start a load for her. Another time, the washing machine that AHS had gotten me the last time I had them was really loud in the spin cycle. I had someone come and check that. The persons who came told me that I needed a new washing machine which kinda surprised me because I've had one very recently. For this case, it took a long time to get a new washing machine. I had around three different service companies look at the air-conditioner trying to diagnose what the problem was. One tech showed up and said that he couldn't work on the unit because it was a Goodman and that his company doesn't work on Goodman. The next tech showed up and said that it was something electrical and he tightened the wire knots. However, that was not gonna fix our issue and we were not losing power nor gaining power. They came back, but they didn't do anything. I called American Home Shield just to get a status on what was going on with the repair, but I stayed on the phone with them for about five hours, between wait time and actual conversations. I was told I would get callbacks, but I never heard back. I was also told that a diagnosis was submitted, but then I was told it wasn't submitted.
We went back and looked at all of how it was and I was done with AHS. The warranty expires in December and I'm not gonna re-up it. They are not professional. I also don't have time to battle with the contractor. If someone can't diagnose something, they have to get someone else out that can. If I don't call and ask, it just goes into the vacuum of nothing. It was getting three or four days and I didn't hear anything. Nobody was coming back and nobody was fixing. I still got the same problem and it dragged up for three weeks. I was wondering what I am paying for and why do I have to be the one that calls and says if they have submitted a diagnosis yet. They said they cannot get someone else out here, but they can charge me another $75 service fee and get somebody already.
I asked what the timeframe was on that and I was told 24 hours. However, the 24 hours turned to diagnosis. The next technician said he didn't know why someone told me 24 hours. He said it was 48 hours. It has been three weeks and the frustration continuously amounted. Metro Air Services showed up yesterday and the tech punch screwed a cap on the high-pressure side. It seemed there was a leak in the internal core valve and he replaced the core valve and added a bit of Freon. That was his take on it and the AC seems to be working now. The very last people I dealt with at AHS were wonderful, but the 15 previous people that I dealt with weren't very helpful. I dealt with good people in the process who followed up with what they said they were gonna follow up with, but to get to that was eight phone calls.

My clothes dryer wasn’t heating so I submitted a claim to AHS. We looked on top of the dyer and we turned it on, and all of a sudden, it was like a snowstorm occurred, so we didn’t know what to do. We were afraid of a fire so we just shut it down, and we waited for them to come out. The guy that came explained everything. He was quick and he got it done. He did some adjusting to it, and he fixed it. He also asked me if I had a vacuum ‘cause it was a little bit messy. He cleaned everything, left it perfect, and he was a good guy.
When I submit a claim to AHS, I try not to do it online because I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a lot of times, the computer lines aren’t good, and I can’t even get online so I usually do it by phone. However, it looks like they changed the process because I’ve always spoken to a human being, and this time, I didn’t speak to a human being. I spoke to a recording. But it was actually a little bit more effective, and it moved a little bit quicker. But it took pretty close to a week before they got a contractor out because it’s one of the big problems with getting assistance up here. There are not a lot of providers covered with this insurance. So a lot of times I have to wait because a lot of their providers are based from Albuquerque, and they only come up to Santa Fe two days a week. So that’s one of my complaints with American Home Shield.
I have two homes that are covered by American Home Shield and I have not received a current policy in about three years. I have called repeatedly. I’ve been stuck on hold forever to find out why they can’t use a mailing address that works. It’s an automatic pay so they don’t bill me. It just automatically comes out of my American Express card every month. So the only thing that they ever have to mail me is the new policy. And I have not gotten a policy despite multiple calls over several years. Like last June 7, 2017, I called, and I let them know that I wasn’t getting a policy. They said they’d take care of it but nobody ever took care of it.
So consequently, I don’t even know what’s covered. It’s a hassle to have to call and guess about it. Plus, I don’t have a current number. I do now because when they booked the appointment, they told me what my new policy number was. But other than that, I wouldn’t have known it because when they renewed the contract, they changed the contract number. So I’m working with contract numbers that are several years old because I don’t have the new policy. I used to have both policies sent to the house in which I’m currently living, and neither one of them came. And I’ve clarified that address a million times. So I don’t know what they’re doing. AHS is okay, but, not to get a policy at you over a period of three years is a little ridiculous.
The other thing is, I was in the state capital. I can’t believe that I can’t find more than one guy, with one company to fix the dryer. We have plenty of people here that repair those things. And yet, they won’t deal with American Home Shield. So I would truly look to see what other companies are out there that have a better list of service providers. The clothes dryer is not critical but if it was the refrigerator, I wouldn’t be happy to wait a week.

The icemaker gradually started not making ice and the contractor AHS sent came out and assessed it. It needed parts and they put those parts on and it still wasn’t working. They ordered more parts and came back out. It’s now making ice. I file my claim with AHS online and usually within 48 hours or so I would have a message that the claim had been picked up. I would have a call within 24 hours to schedule a time. I had only one contractor that has come out and that’s been a very positive experience. He's a very nice and kind gentleman. He was courteous, explained what he was doing and what the next step was going to be.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield was for my garage door opener. I submitted a claim to them online and their site was user-friendly. The contractor was wonderful, very honest and personable. He explained what he was doing and what the problem was. Once the repair was made, it’s been working perfectly. I'm glad that I decided to get that insurance and I would recommend American Home Shield and I’ve already told my daughter that they need to get it, which she did.

My fiancé and I are very upset. We’ve had American Home Shield for over 2 years and have never had a problem until now. We had a pipe get a hole in it and started leaking. We have a plumber in the family but because we pay almost $70 a month to this business, we called them. The company they contacted was very quick to reach out and send someone. However, due to an ACCESS ISSUE THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BROKEN PIPE, nothing was covered. The guy still was able to reach the pipe and fix it which was what I called for in the first place. The way he got to the pipe shouldn’t have mattered. I was told the part of my contract that talked about an access issue. However, AHS could have offered to help with something.
We paid almost $500 for hole in a pipe and have a HOLE IN OUR WALL because of course AHS couldn’t help with that either. The authorization supervisor Kim said she was try to help but didn’t do anything. I spoke to a gentleman that said we would get our $75 service fee returned as a courtesy but then the supervisor Kim turned around to tell me that we weren’t. I’m so unhappy with this busy. They’re supposed to help the consumer but instead they just keep raising their rates and making their contract for strict so they don’t have to pay for anything. Absolutely horrible how my issue was treated. I basically felt like I was told, “sorry, not my problem”. There was no courtesy with this at all. Next time, I’ll just have someone I know come to my house and fix something since most likely I’ll have to pay for it all myself.

If I could give this review 0 stars I would. We had a service appointment back in July 2018 on our washing machine, as we were experiencing issues with our the water draining properly. He was able to fix the present issue during the initial appointment, but informed us that our lid switch was broken and needed to be replaced. The technician scheduled a follow-up appointment for the following week, said he ordered the part and gave me the time/date they would be back. The upcoming appointment comes around, and we do not get any call or message from the technician at all. He never showed. We followed up routinely since then, please note it is now OCTOBER, and we have yet to get this resolved. Finally, I got in touch with someone, who was supposed to come out to finish the job today, 10/5. I was given the appointment window of 12-4PM. 4:30 rolls around, still no call.
I call the main telephone number to see what was going on, and was informed that the technician had the wrong number to reach me, and turns out they changed my appointment window to 3-6PM without telling me. I then received a call from the technician who asked what the appointment was for [YES, he didn't even know what needed to be fixed!] and turns out that the first technician never even submitted a request for the broken lid switch. I now have to wait TWO MORE WEEKS for another appointment, which isn't even confirmed. I cannot express my frustration enough. We still have a broken washer, no help from American Home Shield OR the technician - and we have already paid to get this replaced. If you expect timely, helpful service, I do not recommend American Home Shield. I am beyond disappointed with this experience and do not wish anyone to go through this.

So, I made a claim for my furnace on Monday 10/1/2018. A furnace guy finally came out on Wednesday 10/3/2018. Now, here it is Friday, 10/5/2018 at 5:00 pm, 48 hours later and the furnace man has not been authorized to order parts or whatever as authorization is pending. So going into the weekend, I have NO heat. Also, then of course it is Iowa, so instead of 30 degrees at night, it got up to 80 during the day, Wednesday, and then my A/C didn't work. I have it in writing from AHS on facebook messenger that I would not get charged the second $100 if they turn out to be part of the same issue because your A/C comes through your furnace system, etc. Turns out, YES, it was the same issue and so they closed the A/C claim but yet the 2nd $100 is still showing as scheduled to go through my account!
Second issue, you should not have to wait near to an hour on hold to speak with someone. That means you do NOT have enough people. I have waited twice this week and then finally got a real person and then they ask me to hold. One person did not know how to get back on the call and somehow disconnected me. The next person, today, told me to hold after 49 minutes but then somehow I got sent back to main menu. I think there isn't training there AND/OR they just hire incompetent folks. Not sure. Going into weekend with no heat and no update on what is going on. I would have recommended them in the past but AHS has went completely downhill.

Experienced a gas leak from dryer in late evening, called gas company who came and cut gas off at that line. Contacted AHS, Contractors came 09/25, said additional part was needed. Contractor returned 10/01/18, repaired dryer to satisfaction. However upon reviewing credit card statement I was charged more than the usual service fee.
I called Customer service (Max) who explained the additional charge was a surcharge due to distance the Contractor had to come. I told her the explanation given was not acceptable, placed on hold, returned to say it was actually a tax. I asked for a Supervisor. I was placed on hold for 25 minutes. Dennis- Supervisor, finally came to say it was a State Tax. I asked when did this start. He responded 'this year'. I asked if could send a copy of the notice that taxes Well I knew that's not true since I had service earlier in the year. I asked for a number to Corporate Offices to complain, he gave me 888 458-5376 (a meal delivery service). I am totally unsatisfied with the charge and customer service. They couldn't get anyone to pick up the phone in retention, so they then told me they would process the cancellation themselves. A week later I was charged another $60. I have literally spent another hour on hold trying to resolve an issue that should already be dealt with. There is no reason I shouldn't be able to cancel a service online if I ordered it online. This rat maze waste of time is systematically designed to allow these scumbags more opportunities to keep my business and/or charge me at least one more time. We have had to do a couple of other service requests with no issue, however the last time we did, it was a horrible experience. Our washing machine stopped working and tech came out and told us it needed replaced. Then after a week with no word, we called and after being on hold for hours, we're told it needed a part ordered. So we ordered the part. Didn't hear from anyone for another week. Called back, on hold for almost 3 hrs this time. We're told that it was being replaced! But they were only going to give us a portion of the amount to replace it.
Was sent to another rep who told us the order for the part was never placed, and that he would place it. 2 wks pass and nothing! Called again and finally spoke to a really nice lady who was very apologetic about the runaround. She gave me her direct number, and said it would be repaired soon. In the end, it was a total of 8wks before we had our washer back. We have a family of 11 and it was definitely a struggle without a washer. Debated about canceling the policy but didn't. I bet we were on hold for 8-10 hours total. Very disappointed in the customer service but will give them another chance.

So this is my 4th home warranty which was purchased with the closing of a new home. I have had good experiences with home warranty companies in the past. The competitors of AHS that I have had in the past were responsive, had good customer service and sent professional service providers (many of which I used again in the future).
All that was in the past. American Home Shield has a good online user interface and that is the extent of the positive I will share. Their customer service is non-existent, if you need to speak with someone, prepare to wait for 45 minutes on the phone as they have no customer service chat or email option for quick questions.
As far as the service providers, they have been sub-par at best. I had one provider cancel my appointment 3 times because they could not find the part needed to complete the repair. I purchase the part off the shelf at the Home Depot 3 minutes from my Home prior to the third cancellation and they stated they could not install the part because it had to be from their providers. I ended up paying another provider out of pocket for the service.
Additionally, since their provider was unable to complete the repair they provided cash in lieu of the repair. In my contract it states that the money will be received in 30 days and the representative shared that it would be to me in a week. 2.5 months later and about 3 phone calls and 2 hours on hold I received the check. I encourage you to choose another provider and to request a different warranty company to your agent if you are buying.

There is absolutely no way to contact AHS in a sufficient manner. The 800-776-4663 number is useless (was on hold for 25 minutes to reach a representative that I could not understand and she eventually hung up on me). Back on hold again and still waiting after 15 mins. There needs to be a way that customers can comment, notify AHS of unsatisfactory service or incomplete service. No way to do this that I have found??? Have had two service request with AHS, first an AC unit not cooling, paid $240 dollars to have freon added (some warranty) and now two months later it is not cooling again.
My only option is to log another service request and pay AHS another $75 to send someone else out... The other service request was a leaking water heater, it was replaced but the contractor left the old unit in my attic and said he would come back to get it... No way for me to report this or ask AHS to hold the payment to them until they complete the job. PS. I am still on hold the second time 19 minutes and counting.

Overall, my experience with AHS has been good. Most recent experience for an AC repair has been poor. Contractor did not fix AC and overcharged me $100 for freon based on service contract. AHS agrees with me on both accounts but cannot resolve. AHS asked contractor come back at no charge but contractor refuses. AHS says they will keep trying but this has been going on since June with no resolution. I already paid my service fee. AHS has stated they are having a hard time getting contractor to fulfill obligation and I am in the middle. Furthermore, each call to AHS results in a 60-90 minute wait. They really need a way to accept messages and call you back. They do not value your time. It seems If you have an issue to resolve that involves more than one AHS department it becomes very frustrating because of lack of internal communication. As best as I can tell, there is no resolutions department to help with unresolved issues such as mine.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for many years and I’ve had one problem with them. I have a townhome where they had to replace the outside AC unit which was not performing as it should. The tenant told me about it and mentioned it to the contractor, but after that, they didn’t complain to me right away. I was two days past the date of AHS having someone come back out to re-check it, and I had to pay the service fee again which I felt like was unfair because it was a new unit. Because it was under warranty for a year, I had to go back to the manufacturer. The manufacturer wouldn’t talk to me as they would only talk with American Home Shield or the company that installed it. The company that installed it wouldn’t do it because they said American Home Shield purchased the unit.
I spent about 20 hours on the phone trying to resolve that. Because I didn’t want the tenant to be uncomfortable any longer, I just paid the fee again. But it was awful trying to communicate with someone. Many times, they were foreigners and that’s okay, but I was not understanding what they were saying and I got the runaround. It was my worst experience yet. I felt like that they should’ve paid me for the time I spent on the phone, but they would not take care of the fee. Nevertheless, I recently made an online claim for the dishwasher and the refrigerator and it was easy. The response time was great and the tech that came was very professional.

The experience was fine when I talked to the rep but AHS needs help with their system especially for somebody calling in. It takes a long time to get a representative and you might be on the phone 30 minutes to an hour trying to talk to somebody. I had a service coupon last time and I called them before to make sure they applied the coupon before they put the service call. They were sitting there paying through the nose twice and I was aggravated with that because it was like one hand didn't know what the other hand was doing. Other than that, it was okay and just a lot of follow-ups trying to get that straightened out. The contractor came out the first time and didn't fix my problem. He came back and everything is fine now after the second trip. I also submitted a claim for my stove and American Home Shield had that unit fixed.

The first call we made to American Home Shield was great and the second one was where we had a plumber come. I thought the garbage disposal was bad. It was backing up. We also have a tankless water heater downstairs and it was leaking, so I thought I would get American Home Shield out here to fix the garbage disposal and the water heater. The plumber went right there and he tried to run a snake into the thing and he said that it was not going. He had to go downstairs and cut a hole on the pipe and put a drain in it. They ran the snake some more and he said that my pipe was broken underneath and that I had to have our floor dug up and new pipes put in. That would be 50-some hundred dollars and I said, “I don’t think so.” This is a concrete slab. The wooden floor has to come up and he was giving me all this crap. I didn’t run the disposal or we didn’t use the sink for a couple of days. It’s working fine and the water is draining away.
He also put on a new box in on the water heater, but it’s leaking, so I called them, and they are coming back on the 18th to look at that. When I called the company, they asked what was wrong with it. I told them I’m not a plumber and to make sure that somebody comes out here who understands what the thing is and why it's leaking. Otherwise, the GE people came out and fixed the stove lickety-split. They did a good job.

That can slow things down but I guess that’s unavoidable. Sometimes AHS also sends out somebody who’s not trained to deal with the problem. So then I have to call them back and they have to send a different company out. That has also slowed things down on some projects over the years. If they can do anything about that, that will be great. Other than that, no, it’s been good. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and some experiences have been better than others. I have an American Home Shield account on two properties. One is a beach summer house down in South Carolina and then I have my primary home in Virginia. There were a couple of things that we called American Home Shield on for the one in South Carolina. One was a roof deck fan and the other was a plumbing leak. And then the other one was for a dryer. And if you’re gonna deal with American Home Shield you gotta deal with them online because if you’re on the phone, you’ll be there forever.
I had a good experience submitting a claim to AHS. But there were two problems that we have experienced. One was one of the techs did not show but American Home Shield very quickly got another tech. The vendor that didn’t show didn’t understand the nature of the problem. It was a loose attic ventilation fan, so when they found out that it was on the roof, the guy said, “All right, our insurance doesn’t cover roof works.” They thought it was an exhaust fan that went out. They had a system problem during this time and they really adjusted to that really well.
And the only other issue was initially, I have been taking half the fees but two policies on my American Express card and they were also charging my Express card for the 75 bucks fixed fee for the guy that comes out. When they were doing that, they didn’t automatically charge that to my credit card. They got a little confused. And then added to the confusion was that the tech who didn’t show up. And that was the time their information system was down. But they did a good job with what they did. Also, the interactions with the techs were good. I like the people who were coming. They get to work, clean up after themselves, and leave and whatever they fix works. All the techs I’ve ever dealt with through AHS has always been very good people. Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was the replacement of our pump on our pool. The pump was not circulating the water in the pool at all. I went to the website and it was easy to maneuver and very user-friendly. I submitted the claim and the process was quick. A contractor came out in about 4 days and he was claiming that it was an electrical problem. So, when they replaced the part, they actually replaced it with a broken part. Then, on my own, I had to get ahold of an electrical contractor to come out and verify that it was not an electric issue and that it in fact was the pool pump that was the problem. So, there were several steps that I had to do that I wouldn’t have thought would’ve been my responsibility. Nevertheless, the pump is operating well now.
If you are new to a house and are concerned that there would be issues with things you don’t know about, then I would recommend having an American Home Shield warranty. But once you get past that first year, I don’t know that I would re-up the warranty. There are so many things about a repair that are not covered. For instance, we had a pipe burst in the wall and the repair covers coming out and cutting a giant hole in my wall and fixing the faucet. But then I’m responsible for the repair of the wall. Any damage or anything that’s secondary to the repair is required to be paid on your own. Still, the American Home Shield warranty is a good add-on for a real estate purchase for the first year to cover some of the things that maybe the previous homeowner didn’t disclose.

My daughter put the claim in with American Home Shield and Marty Plumbing was here twice. The first time the plumber came, he put a hole in the ceiling. He said he didn't see a leak at all. They left the hole open to see if it does it again. If not, in a week to 10 days, he said to call and have the hole repaired. We had a bad storm and we took a video of it just pouring in. We called AHS back and the lady told my daughter that she had to resubmit. My daughter did something and sent the guy out. He saw where it was coming down. The leak was on the first floor and running down the plumber’s pipe across the rafter and coming down in the living room. He said that wasn't them, and that was the roofer. There was nothing he could do.
We called the roofer, and they came out and said it was the plumbing stack. There was about a two-inch gap but our shingles were all cracked. They put these rubber grommets off of the pipe to go down and close around it until we could have the new roof put on. The contractor was very nice and polite. He explained everything and said if there was anything else, just go back through American Home Shield.

We had problems with the dishwasher and we filed a claim with American Home Shield. Somebody called me from a company that had previously been out to look at my dishwasher. The guy who came out the first time was here for less than 10 minutes. He said that he can't do anything with the dishwasher and that I would have to call American Home Shield back. I told him that the last time they came out, it was the same problem and they ordered a new computer part and they got it working again. I assumed it was the same problem, but he said he couldn't deal with it and left. I was really annoyed about that because the previous time he had been out, I had waited for about a month for the part. The part came and he got the machine going again.
American Home Shield sent somebody else out this time. He was a very nice guy and he owns the company. In the meantime, I've been doing my homework and talking to my son. We had decided that there was either a problem with the computer or there was a blockage. It was obvious that it was going to be the blockage, which the first guy didn’t look for. The second guy came out and he found the blockage. He corrected it really quickly, so I was really pleased with his service and I would certainly want his service again.
I sent an email out to American Home Shield between the time that the first guy and the second guy came out to tell them that the service hasn’t been completed. But I got an email telling me that I was delinquent despite the fact that I told them I would not pay the bill until the service was completed. I phoned them back immediately to say that the service hasn’t been provided.
American Home Shield had asked me when we first set the account up if I wanted to pay in advance. I said no and I don’t see why AHS should get an interest on my money until they provided the service. They should not send out delinquency bills. By law, I have a month to pay and I was very annoyed because it can really throw my credit rating up if I went into the delinquency thing. We were seriously debating in not renewing our contract with American Home Shield. We decided to go ahead with them, but with mixed feelings about it.

I was having problems with my dishwasher. I filed my claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the rep I spoke with told me that they would send someone. That man came within a week. The parts were delivered within a few days but the tech didn’t come back until weeks later because he was very booked. I didn't have a dishwasher for five weeks. But then when he came back, he did a great job and everything is now working fine. He was an excellent repairman. I had a very good experience with American Home Shield.

The dryer wasn’t drying and when I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, it went smoothly. This was my first time using the service and I had a good interaction with the contractors. The first young man that came out diagnosed the situation. Then, he came back a few days later with the part and put it back together. However, he apparently missed a step because it wasn't working correctly and it was still just as bad as before. AHS had to send another guy out. He was an older gentleman who opened it up and figured out what the other guy missed. It has been working fine and I had no trouble with it since.
The experience with AHS has been good and I would recommend friends to seriously look into it. Nowadays, if you have a home and with all the stuff we have, it kinda makes sense. It doesn't make sense if you're gonna get the extended warranty on everything you have in the home, but in place of extended warranty, something like this is a great idea.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield when my refrigerator wasn’t cooling at the bottom. The contractor called before he came and when he arrived, he fixed the refrigerator right then and there. Since then, we haven’t had any problems. The experience was great all around and I would recommend them.

When my washing machine wasn't spinning all the way around, I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. Their customer reps were fine and I was contacted by the contractor within 36 hours. The person that they sent out was good. His name was Johnny and when he came in, he asked what our issue was, then proceeded to take a look at it and tried to figure what the issue was. He looked at it, identified a couple of things that he said he was going to replace and told me it had to be ordered. The contractor ordered the parts, came back and replaced them.
Unfortunately, the guy had to come back up a couple of times because the issue wasn't resolved when he was out. It was a little challenging for him figuring out what the issue was, but he got it. If I have another appliance issue, I want him to come out and work on it. However, I had issues with American Home Shield with an AC call that I had and my experience was terrible. Still, for the most part, my experience is very good. I've been very satisfied.

There was water leaking under the shelf inside the refrigerator, so we thought that either the icemaker was leaking or there was some tube that came loose or got broken. It turned out that somebody had readjusted the temperature, so it was freezing up the lines and the lines would thaw on defrost and leak out. We decided to do submit the claim with American Home Shield online and it worked perfectly. It was a lot better than First American, with whom we have our warranty in another home that we have. The technician we get reaches out usually within 24 hours sometimes even within a couple of hours. Oftentimes, our calls happen on the weekend and, unless it's an emergency, I don't expect a callback from AHS until Monday. I usually get a call by 8 a.m. on the following business day and that has worked fine thus far.
The servicer AHS sent out was very responsive, and helpful. I was really happy with how quickly he was willing to come out and take a look at things. Even though it didn't seem like there was much to do, he checked everything out. Also, I noticed that AHS can collect the service call fee or copay in advance and the system doesn't allow you to delay that. It's either you're paying online in advance or you're paying the technician, or you're paying afterward. I'm very comfortable paying it online, but I prefer to pay it when the person shows up as opposed to paying it in advance. If people have to reschedule, it is irritating, so if there was a way to postpone the payment until the technician arrives and go on my phone and press the button and say, "Release the payment," that would make me a little happier.
It would also be a little better customer experience because it doesn't take complete control away. If somebody doesn't show up on time or shows up the wrong time, or shows up and says, "I made a mistake, I can't do this work," I'd rather not have to do the work to call AHS and say that they took the payment, yet the tech can't do the work. Still, AHS seems to be a better system compared to First American that takes longer in general.

It was summertime and our air conditioner was out. We called AHS and I specifically requested their contractor, Bevills, that I happen to know is a reputable company. We were trying to get our problem solved and they had 24-hour service which they don’t charge extra for. The person that I dealt with at AHS said they would turn that in and tell the contractors to give me a call. Nobody gave me a call, so I called AHS back and they said they had turned it in. Then, I called Bevills and they didn't see that they have gotten that. It ended up being a couple of days before the tech got our air conditioner fixed. The tech came over and he had to order a part. I was kind of aware that that might be how that would go that was why I was trying to get them out immediately. But I understood it was just a whole big miscommunication thing there.
Also, we had a leak in our air conditioner recently, so I backed up in there. But there were terrible things about the contractor that didn’t make me happy. They didn’t haul off any of their trash from up there and I know that it wasn’t there before. Also, there were some other things going on with our air conditioner. The tech didn’t put it back together the way it should have been put back together. And then there was another issue with the system itself. I just wish I had known ahead of time because I could have got it backed up there to address it whether or not it was something covered by the warranty or not. We had another experience with AHS that was horrible and I don’t know why we just didn’t change. We probably should’ve at that time. I still have that bad taste in my mouth. It was another air conditioning issue and it has been a long time, but it was handled horribly. And that was all AHS, not even the contractor.
Good morning Mr. Rader,
I understand your concerns regarding your experience to have the air conditioner service through American Home Shield by the technician of your choice. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issues that occurred.

My A/C went out on Wednesday. I placed a service call request at 7:45pm, receiving an email immediately saying I would be contacted by a company in the morning. I never heard from the company and when I attempted to reach them, their voicemail said they were out of the office. I called AHS and spoke with Rep #1. She stated the company would call me to schedule the visit after she talked to them. The company called but said they couldn't be out for over 24 hours. My house is 84 degrees! I called AHS back to request a different vendor. After being on hold for 40 minutes, they finally answered. I explained the situation and was placed on hold by Rep #2. She came back to the line and said it wasn't hot enough for my visit to be expedited! When I requested a supervisor, she asked me to hold and I agreed. After hearing hold music for a few minutes, the line then went dead. I tried again...
After being on hold another 40 minutes, I reached Rep #3. I explained the situation, that my A/C was out, that the previous rep had disconnected, she assured me that she could help. Well, she placed me on hold and the line was disconnected again! I called again...holding 37 minutes to reach Rep #4. When she answered, I told her I was frustrated and told her she may want to just connect me to a supervisor. She said she would like to take 3-4 minutes to read the notes. I stated that was fine but please don't hang up on me. Well, she didn't...but she left me on hold. After being on hold for over 15 minutes, I had to disconnect. I have never experienced such terrible customer service. I am very disappointed in this company and will not renew my contract.

My air conditioner blower fan has been making noises and losing power for over 3 months. I contacted AHS and they sent a repairman. The blower wasn't making a noise when he arrived. He said it always makes noises and nothing was wrong. He came out 3 more times as the problem became worse. He never took the cover off to assess the situation. Told me not to call again. After several calls and a minimum of hour wait time another repairman was ordered. I had to pay another service fee. The technician told me Circuit board and motor but we would try Circuit board first. Still not working. Have to call AHS 10 times with a minimum wait time of an hour.
Today I was on hold for 2 1/2 hours waiting to speak to a supervisor and ask for both service fees to be refunded...they disconnected the call. Still no idea when my A/C will be fixed. The parts are under warranty with my Lennox heating and A/C. I have lost income because I can't book my home for rentals for 2 1/2 months. Totally unacceptable customer service and follow through for service requests.

We purchased a home with a AHS Warranty included. Our water heater busted all over our basement on 10/1/18. We submitted a request at 5:45 am that morning and waited to hear something back. They claim they attempted to call and called the incorrect number, despite me giving them the number when I submitted the claim. They even texted my husband about our claim (this was on Monday). We did not have any correspondence with a repair man until Tuesday, 10/2/18 and he said he would get it ordered and have it repaired on Wednesday 10/3/18 and he said he'd call on his way.
We heard nothing from AHS or the repair man on that Wednesday until my husband called to see where he was. He told us that they were waiting on Home Depot. It is now 10/4/18 and we are going into the fourth evening of not having hot water and we still do not have an estimated time that our water heater will be replaced. This kind of service is completely unacceptable and I will not recommend AHS.

We contracted for our home and a rental we own. Our rental had air conditioning issues in the middle of summer. The company they sent out were horrible and unprofessional. They supposedly ordered a part, other air conditioning companies I hired said were unavailable because the air conditioning company was out of business. AHS refused to listen and would only pay for this $1116.00 part cost. Even though the company they sent never contacted us, after repeated attempts from us. In the end we paid $11,000.00 for a new AC heating unit. Our tenants were without or limited AC for weeks, while AHS did nothing.
Then when a new tenant moved in on September 1, 2018, she had no hot water. We were on a three-week cruise, so AHS sent out a plumbing company. The tech sent me a text we needed a new hot water heater, ours not worth fixing. A week goes by and AHS says they’re sending another plumbing company out, who never did contact our tenant even after I provided information.
Two weeks go by now, our tenant has no hot water in the entire townhouse, she’s going to the gym to shower. I tell her to hire a plumber, who replaced the hot water heater at thousands expense to us. AHS has refused to reimburse anything saying I didn’t follow their policies. They also continued our contract without my authorization. I’m dealing with them still, today October 4th, on a recall for a faucet repaired in August. Long half holds on the phone, mostly rude employees etc. Believe me they keep notes on their customers. Our next payment is due October 18th, pretty sure I’m canceling them, which might be part of their business plan. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT CONTRACT WITH AMERICAN HOME SHIELD.

FACT: If you like being ripped off... hassled... waiting on hold endlessly... and driven absolutely nuts by a customer service and authorization department that couldn't give a rat's ** about your satisfaction, you should sign up for AHS without delay. I've had home warranties for over 30 years and this was my first experience with American Home Shield after our last warranty (which came with our home) expired. Instead of being smart and going with First American (which we had for decades), I thought I'd try AHS. They have so many clearly FAKE "consumer review" sites that it seemed like a good choice. Wow, was I taken for a fool.
After a year of paying the monthly fee... and then renewing (automatically) without even a SINGLE claim, I then had problems with our dryer. The contractor they assigned us (who didn't contact us for days) scheduled us for 5 days out. I requested another vendor who would do it sooner. After holding on the phone endlessly (!!!), they said they'll try to find someone and would call me back that day.
Needless to say, I had to call them. They said the couldn't find anyone, but they need 24 hours and I should call back. I did. And they STILL didn't find anyone. So instead of authorizing me to use my own contractor (as they promised), I was told that they need to send my request to another department for review and that I would be called by 5 that day.
Again, no call. Then I get an email saying, "Great News! We found a contractor!" Only problem. The idiots assigned the SAME guy on the SAME day at the SAME time. Fools. I called them back and was told, "Uh... that's weird... it says here that the company we assigned doesn't even do dryers or ANY appliances. We will have to check into it before authorizing your own repair guy." More delays. Next day, nobody calls. I have to call yet again. And wait endlessly on hold yet again. This place truly sucks. Finally, I get an email saying, "You are approved to find your own vendor. Here is the auth #... and here's what to do." And I also called to confirm that email. Everything checked out.
So I call my own guy. He comes and diagnoses the problem. Then, as instructed by the rep AND their email, my guy calls American HASSLE, er, HOME Shield for an authorization # to repair. A miserable arrogant robot says, "Uh, sorry... we assigned someone to you." I say, "No. I have an authorization # and an email that I'm looking at RIGHT NOW. It tells me I am authorized and tells me to call my own guy and have him call you (fools)." She says in a truly "I don't give 2 craps about you manner"... "No... my records say we assigned someone and management says you are NOT authorized to call your own guy." I say, "Let me give you the auth number so you can look it up."
She says in Queen ** manner, "Sir, I have all the information I need. You are not authorized. I don't know why you got that email." I say, "Well, maybe there's something you weren't informed of (trying my best to keep my cool dealing with this truly miserable company)... May I speak to a supervisor, please?" She puts me on hold... comes back and asks to speak to my repair guy... and FINALLY gives us an auth #. (Whether they ultimately pay or not remains to be seen.
Did she apologize to me, the customer? NO. Did she apologize to my repair guy for putting him through hell and arguing with him too? NO. Did Mrs. Don't Give a Crap even EXPLAIN what happened? NO. Nothing. Just, "here's your #." I am appalled. Yes, I know this idiot is a cog in the wheel, but if a customer tells you that he received an email saying, YOU ARE AUTHORIZED TO USE YOUR OWN REPAIR CONTRACTOR, then even as a peon in the company I would go to my manager and say, "Hey... something is wrong here. This guy was TOLD by US to use his own person. We can't now say he CAN'T after we told him to... and he called a vendor who did the onsite diagnosis!" Nothing. She just was more interested in being "right"... as wrong as she was.
If you are considering American Home Shield, you are being DECEIVED by obviously FAKE reviews that are spread out all over the web. Don't think for a minute of using this horrid company. They will do nothing but hassle the hell out of you and make you wish you learned from my MISERABLE experience. And who knows if they'll even pay.
I will tell you this... when this repair is done, I'm cancelling and going back to First American. I had only 1 issue with them in over 20 years and it was resolved, but 99% of the time everything was great. Global was also incredible, but they only sell through real estate agents and once the coverage lapses, you can't, as the homeowner, renew. I used outside repair guys in EVERY case with Global and the process was amazing every time.
American Home Shield is ABSOLUTE CRAP. If you don't believe me... go ahead and sign up. I promise you'll kick yourself for making one of the stupidest decisions of your life. (Like what I'm doing right now.) Spread the word. American Home Shield sucks. American Home Shield couldn't care less about you. American Home Shield will take your money and screw you over... or simply put you through the wringer. American Home Shield is an example of a company run by morons. American Home Shield hopes they trick you into believing their false advertising about "easy claims". American Home Shield is ready to RIP YOU OFF. BEWARE!

"If I use one of your service people to check and maintain my gas furnace, will the charge for this service be applied to my deductible if they find something that needs to be repaired?" After 3 different representatives, 56 minutes on the phone, including one that was a supervisor, no one was able to actually understand my question. In fact the supervisor suggested she set up a service ticket on my hot water heater! All of them used prompts that were obviously for suggested responses to my questions generated by a computer. It seems to be a misnomer to call a company "American Home Shield" and you can't speak to anyone in America. It's been over a month and my dryer still hasn't been fixed. AHS is still drafting their monthly fees and have been paid the service fee for my repair, without an actual repair. This company has online chat and all type ways to contact them to enroll and report a repair. HOWEVER, when it's time to follow up on a repair, prepare to spend all day on hold and often get hung up on. I have been trying for weeks to speak to a live person about my repair. I am getting rid of AHS as soon as I can reach someone and I plan to just purchase a new dryer. Stay away from AHS, because it's not worth it. Start you a savings account just for repairs. This company is horrible. As a realtor, I have dealt many home warranty companies and AHS is by the worst. My air conditioner stopped working in May. I called and made a claim, and within a few hours AHS issued a provider to do the work. The company issued called and made an appointment for a week later. Not ideal, but okay. When they came out, the contractor was rude. He didn't explain what was wrong with the unit and he made a "repair" and charged us for 2 lbs of plan uncovered freon ($210). The AC started working and 2 hours after he left, the AC stopped working again. I called AHS and resubmitted the claim. The contractor (same rep) called me back and stated they couldn't get out to my home for another week. This is now frustrating.
They come out (same rep) the following week and now claim it needs a new part and it will take another 7-10 days to come in. The part comes in and they (same rep) install it. The AC begins to work. Less than 15 days goes by and the AC stops working again. I called AHS and now I'm pissed-I demand a new contractor. AHS REFUSES to send out a new contractor, but states they will make sure a new representative is sent out. The new rep from the same company comes out and shakes his head... Freon shouldn't have been filled because there was an obvious leak, filling it is illegal. He tells us the last rep didn't reinstall the filter they removed, and that the condenser needs to be replaced.
I contact AHS and again demand a new contractor and relay all the information from their own hired contractor. They refuse to send out a new company and say that the only thing I can do is place a formal complaint with their vendor department. This department never called as promised and I call 7 times and I'm placed on hold for a rep that answers. He contacts AHS and AHS puts me on the phone for 40 minutes waiting for the rundown of the work. It only gets worse from here. I tell them this company shouldn't be performing this extensive work on my home after 8 weeks of piss poor performance. They refuse and offer to "cash me out" for $1700 (mind you it is a 8000 replacement). They refuse a new contractor and valuing my property I take the cash out.
I hire my own contractor, who says the work required is 5x worse than what they diagnosed, and that we should be demanding AHS issue us more money based on their estimate. Mind you, I'm paying my contractor out of my pocket-he could care less where the money is coming from. He was disgusted at the home warranty company and the previous contractors "work". I call to cancel my AHS contract and they refuse to cancel the contract, stating their cancellation department handles this and they will call me back after receiving the request from customer service. They are also going to charge me a administrative cancellation fee.
While I'm waiting for the cancellation department to call, 2 weeks passes and they deduct my monthly fee again out of my account. I contacted my bank and reported the deduction as fraud and had them blacklisted from taking ACH payments from my account. My bank investigated and refunded my money. I contacted the BBB and they lied to the BBB about the specifics of my account. Horrible company. Stay away.

I contacted AHS in July 2018 to have someone check my outdoor sump pump. I was told by the plumber and the AHS rep that the claim would be covered and all I was required to pay was my service charge. The plumbing company later contacted me stating that AHS would no longer cover the pump. After many calls, I decided to contact AHS corporate office. I received a call from one of the higher ups who stated that the pump would be covered as a courtesy to me. So Mister Plumber (also horrible) came out to install the pump. I did not have any problems with water getting into my home for a while because we didn't have much heavy rain. Towards the end of August, I began coming home from work at times, finding water in my house. I thought the rain had just been so heavy that the pump could not handle it. Well the other day, I was home when it poured. From the time the rain started to build in my backyard, the pump did absolutely nothing.
I contacted Mister Plumber and AHS. Both companies wanted to charge me to come out and look at the "brand new pump" to determine what the problem was. I was told by the plumbing company that they only cover the pump for 30 days and AHS said they only covered it for 60 days. It is extremely unfair to customers when information is miscommunicated and we are held at fault. As a result, I plan to cancel my contract. I can use the money I pay monthly to pay a reliable plumber to come out and service or replace the piece of junk AHS paid Mister Plumber to install! Signed, A Very Unhappy Ex-Customer.

On Sept 19 a technician came and said it needed a control board but that was not that only thing wrong with it but he had to replace that in order to diagnose the rest of the problem. The part was ordered. When I hadn’t heard anything by Sept 28 I called AHS and found out no one had ordered the part! I was promised a refund of my service fee which still hasn’t appeared in my back account as of Oct 3. On Oct 3 I called again and was told the part arrived broken (which happens a lot). After being on hold over an hour I was told they’d investigate and call me back with options (replacement). No one called.
So I called again about 12 hours later. This time I was on hold over 2 hours and told the part would arrive on October 11! I have a family and I’ve already spent a fortune at the laundromat not to mention the time. Someone is supposed to call me tomorrow but I think he just wanted to end the call with me this evening. I would LOVE for someone from AHS to contact me to make this right. I just need my washer back!

I had two pumps on my spa that quit working. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and then the pool people called me to set up an appointment. The pool guy came out and he replaced the pumps. He had everything on his truck. He didn’t have to leave and go somewhere. I had OneGuard Home Warranties at my other house. There were times stuff would be down for two days or a week because they didn’t have parts for it. But this pool guy showed up with the parts that I told him about and he already knew what the units were, so it was nice. After the repair, everything has been working back.
I really like American Home Shield but their service fee is high. The only thing I like about OneGuard is they had a service fee of $75. I would let them know about things that I would normally fix myself because the service charge was pretty cheap. But because we just moved in and then we had two pumps with the issue, I just went ahead and gave $125 to AHS and they took care of it.

The original person who was assigned to me never called and so I wound up calling that company and they told me that it would take about a month for them to get out. That was absolutely unacceptable. Still, when I called AHS back, they were able to get somebody that came over that same day so I was very impressed with that. But then, I had a little difficulty interacting with the rep because she didn't have a grasp with my problem. It took a while for us to get together on what the problem was.
Even so, the interaction with the electricians who came was excellent. They assessed the situation and they fixed it in one day. They actually stayed late to make sure that everything was done the same day. I was very impressed with them. Everything has been working great since the repair. I’m very happy and I would highly recommend American Home Shield.

We had an AC, and the outside unit wasn’t blowing at all. It’s not working. It would keep on but that would be it. M & M Control came out and they cleaned the outside unit, and also checked the other ones that were out there. If I can’t get a hold of someone at AHS, I use the live chat. Then I’ll get a notification saying who they picked. And then, the company will call me, and they usually come out within a week depending on how busy they are. The last people I used was Thomas Heating and Air because they switched companies. The only thing is, I don’t usually get the same vendors. We live in a small town so there’s nobody that does the work. So they’ll find someone that’s better, depending on the time situation ‘cause most of them come from San Antonio.
When the contractors come out, they introduce themselves, explain how to prevent the problems, maintain stuff, anything that might need to be replaced in the future depending on the situation. Most of the times, they’ve already worked with American Home Shield more than once so they tell us what’s gonna be covered if something else has to be replaced later on down the road and give us a price range. I’ve already recommended a couple people to AHS.

Our AC stopped working and we called American Home Shield. We set up a service appointment, paid for that, and a technician came out at my request on that same day because, at that time, the temperature was 95 degrees here where we live. In the first appointment, the technician wasn’t gonna be able to come out until two days later and I told them that it wasn’t gonna work for me. So, I called American Home Shield and I asked them if they could send somebody out sooner than that if they had another company that they could use, and they did. The other company came out and technician fixed it within one hour, and it has worked good ever since. We also submitted a claim for our refrigerator that broke twice and we had an issue with our hood range that we are still waiting on to get replaced.
We've had American Home Shield for almost a year and when submitting claims, we just go online. The website is user-friendly and somebody usually contacts us within 24 hours. The contractors that they’ve sent out have been very nice and very professional. AHS usually sends out Cal Valley Appliance, except for the AC unit, when they sent somebody else. The technicians give us a four-hour window and they are usually punctual.
The quality of the repairs has been good and the appliances haven't failed again. Plus, you also have to consider that most of these appliances are the originals that came with the house when we bought it. So, they’re pretty old already. American Home Shield is a good company, but their 24-hour window seems a little far out. For example, when our refrigerator went bad, a lot of our food could get spoiled in 24 hours. I wish AHS could improve and fast-track a request depending on the appliance that gets messed up. They could decrease the time if it has to be with a refrigerator or an AC unit.

The fan for the refrigerator motor wasn't going and it was like 40 degrees. So I called American Home Shield and they said that they would get somebody out there. But the repairman didn't do the stuff. I was in Nashville for a couple of days and when I came back and checked my telephone, I didn't have American Home Shield on caller ID. So I called AHS and the contractor back yesterday. Finally, the contractor came out today but they didn't fix anything. They just assessed the refrigerator to see what was wrong with it. Right now, they're having a problem with getting the order from American Home Shield. But I love the serviceman. He is as good as gold. He said that as soon as he hears from American Home Shield, he would order the parts.
I have talked to American Home Shield and they said they were gonna send it right then. They gave me a number and told me to call Kenny's Appliance. I did and told them American Home Shield was fixing to call them. I gave them the number but then American Home Shield never called them. But it's no big deal. This is a little hitch this time and while that was all going on, my dryer took out so I'm glad it waited. I love American Home Shield and the people that they have sent. The only person that we did not want was the plumber. My husband was adamant when he told AHS never to send that company back down here. That aside, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

You can go either online or on the phone when you submit claims to American Home Shield and for the light switch in the upstairs bathroom, I needed an electrician to check on its functionality. They would usually send an email or text message confirming that they got the request. The electrician from the company that AHS use called to set up the appointment. Once it was set, they should show up and you would tell them what was going on. When you turn on the light switch, sometimes, you have to jiggle it. The gentleman replaced it and he said that it was a bad switch and that it wasn’t just loose so, I couldn’t have gone in there and just tighten something up. Now, the light switch works when you flip it up.
In the one year timeframe that we had them, we filed a dozen claims and it has been the process for just about everything that we’ve had a claim for. There was only one time that there was an issue with communication as far as quick to respond, to get someone out here and to take care of it. It has been 99% hassle-free and AHS is a very good company to work with.

The contractor that came to my house was very nice, however, when I called them directly about setting up a time, the guy, a different person, was very difficult to deal with and rude. But everything has been fine now since the repair.
Everyone says that warranty companies are horrible. They don’t get the problem fixed quickly and had to wait forever for somebody to come out. American Home Shield is worth it and it's pretty darn quick with having someone come out within 24. It cost me 38 bucks a month and I got several hundred dollars of work for 150 bucks because of it.

I have a problem with the people who do the work for AHS. When the electrical part of the AC went kaput, the first one to come over said that he didn’t have the part and that he would be back in a few days. I never saw him. AHS then sent another company over. The tech had to hook a wire up and it took him 10 minutes. I can’t blame AHS because they don’t control the contractors. The first contractor obviously didn’t know what he was doing. Nevertheless, the second company was really good. The guy who came was nice and polite, and he took care of it.
Then, the hot water heater went out last week, so I went online and called them on Thursday. Doing it online was really easy, and I had a guy come out on Saturday. There was some black mold that he didn’t wanna mess with, so I took off the old sheetrock and put in a mold resistant one. AHS called me Monday and told me the guy told them about the black mold, which I understand. He was supposed to come back this week and I’m still waiting on him. I have used American Home Shield since ’98 and they have always taken care of the problem. I recommend them to people all the time.

I’m more comfortable with submitting my claims over the phone to American Home Shield. I’ve tried it online and they didn’t seem to respond as fast. I have multiple numbers for them and sometimes you have to wait on the line for half an hour to get them. I usually hang up and call another number and the person answers right away. So, they need to change their phones. Nevertheless, every single person that they have sent over has been fantastic and the interactions were great. They were efficient and diagnosed the problem in 10 minutes. They were very honest, showed up when they were supposed to and returned my calls. I’ve never had a problem and they always kept me in the loop.
The way AHS is advertising is that they cover almost everything within exceptions until you have a problem with your water heater. They should have told me ahead of time that they don’t cover water heaters with certain issues. Still, they replaced a microwave that was attached to an oven for me, the thermostat for the air conditioner and heater, the computer on my heating system, the ice maker in my refrigerator, and most recently, the motor on the dryer. These things are not that old but they failed and so they replaced them.
In the area where I live, there are a lot of high-quality people but I have friends that live 50 miles from here and they said that they didn’t feel comfortable with the contractors that AHS sent out to their house. So, then they canceled the service. However, I’m so glad that we have it and I have recommended it to my neighbors and all my friends. I’m a big proponent of it. I don’t understand why everybody doesn’t have this service. Unless every one of your appliances is brand-new. Our appliances are within six to nine years old and it’s a fabulous service because you never know who to call. If you call them, they would send out a reputable person.

They are a little higher than a couple of others, so I always feel like I have to let people know, and give them brochures of the different ones, but I think American Home Shield does a good job. When our dryer was not heating, I called them and it was easy to file the claim. I got the message, but I didn't see it right away. I had to wait 'till the next day, which was prompt. The contractor ordered a part that they thought might be the problem and they came out with it. They come from Colombia, which is an hour and a half away, so they try to come prepared which made a lot of sense. The contractor replaced this one part and the dryer worked once, then it wasn't working again, so they came out a second time, repaired it and it was fine.

My shower was clogged and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. My experience submitting the claim to them was great and they got the contractor, Neighborhood Plumber, out here the next day. The guy has been out here before and he's commendable. In the past, I have had trouble where it was hard to reach AHS. Sometimes I would be on hold for an hour and a half and sometimes they would send out somebody bad. Last year, I had a flood in my laundry room and AHS had to send out three people which I wasn’t happy about. I was paying $75 each pop and they weren't fixing it so I had to escalate it. Finally, I got this Neighborhood Plumber guy and he figured it out in two seconds. It turned out to be related to my air conditioner so I had to call the air conditioner guy out.
Also, sometimes, AHS would screw up on billing and it would take them a while to fix. Their reps kept saying that they would take care of it and they never did. I would call to follow up and they would say that they could see that someone took care of it, but they didn’t. But it was resolved five months later. And other than that, their reps are great as far as calling and making appointments.
I had a good experience with AHS two years ago when my stove broke and their contractor came out and fixed it. There was a 30-day warranty. But it was in the middle of summer, so I didn’t use my stove much. 60 days after and the same part broke again. It was obvious I wasn’t using my stove. That part was supposed to work for five years, but it worked 60 days and they took care of that. The contractor came out and replaced it, but I did not get charged for it and that was good about them.

We had a claim for a plumbing problem with American Home Shield recently. We submitted the claim online and navigating through their website was fine and easy. The service and the interaction we had with the contractor that they sent out were good and everything has been working fine since the repair. But we had a horrible experience with the claim that we filed for the furnace last year. Apparently, our furnace was put in incorrectly. The contractor, Superman Heating & Cooling, scheduled several times to come out, but they cancelled the appointment several times. Then, when they finally came out, they sent out their newest guy that never even knew what was going on with the project. Now, they eventually fixed it because they had to put in some sort of condensation pump in it. But we will see if that works because I’ve only used the heat in the last month or so.
American Home Shield was good though. When the air conditioner was first put in a long time ago, the contractor was good, and then they were flaking out big time. The ball was dropped on the contractor's side, not with AHS. The contractor was overwhelmed because of the summer, but the biggest thing was the communication. They could never give me their word and communicate if they were gonna come. There were days when I would get off work and sit around because they were gonna come, but they never showed up. Or they would show up really late and come out, but they wouldn't have the part that was needed as it hadn't come to the warehouse, so they couldn’t do anything and we needed to reschedule the repair.
I was so angry because there were times when my wife would stay home and make sure that someone was here on the days that I had to work, so it was a mess. Then I called and told them that I was gonna have to take legal action because they needed to come and I didn’t feel comfortable having my family in here with a furnace that was not working perfectly. It got to the point where I was about to hire an attorney. Despite all that, I was really happy with AHS. They helped us out a lot. I pay $100 a month because we’ve had some problems, but they’ve kept their word every single time.

We had a Whirlpool refrigerator. The freezer kept freezing up solid. We had another company come out and they said it needed a freezer plug replaced but Whirlpool didn’t make it anymore. For over a year we didn’t have a freezer that we could use so that was very frustrating. When we got AHS to have it serviced, we noticed there was some other problems with the refrigerator. Their contractor was able to diagnose everything and initially fix it. They’ve been very professional and I was surprised at how fast they have gotten things diagnosed. They told us what they thought was happening and how they had fix it.
The contractors were also really helpful as far as telling us to call if we had any other problems. They do a very good job and they do it in a real timely manner. The warranty have been well worth the amount of money. The freezer was fine for a while and then it was defrosting and we couldn’t keep things cold. We called them back and they said there was a computerized component that it needed. They ordered it and they came out and fixed it. It’s been fine ever since. It took two tries, but we appreciated that they at least were able to troubleshoot it and not just say that they didn't know how to get it fixed. They saved us having to buy a new refrigerator.
The only thing is nobody's there to take your call. You have to leave a message and then they would get back to you as far as when somebody could come out and they schedule it. But it’s not really a big deal. Their reps have been very helpful and they get the information pretty concisely and then are able to tell us who they could send and what the timeline was. It’s usually pretty fast. Also the one problem I had was that it took two weeks to order the computerized piece but we knew it was happening. But on the whole, we were very happy they were able to repair it. AHS has been excellent.

When I moved into my house in 2006, I've had American Home Shield. And then I renewed a couple of years. My air conditioning unit then was old. My description of American Home Shield is that they want to rubber band, duct tape, super glue and staple things together. So, what happened was, my air conditioning unit that was old which was pulling a lot of electricity just to work and my electric bill was consistently $354 a month in the summer. I ended up just cancelling and just paid the three grand out of pocket to get my air conditioning unit replaced. And then, my electric bill in the summer was $120, $140. And before that, when I turned on the faucet in the basement, it leaked, and water went everywhere. It was the second day that I moved in. According to American Home Shield, that wasn't covered. They said it had to be behind the wall.
If there's an advertisement saying that they provide repair or replacement, and something is too expensive for you, then you need to come out and do an assessment before you take on that liability. When I sold my house, my faucet needed to be changed. How was I to know that the policy didn't cover changing out a faucet. If you get the contract, yes, but there are some patently obvious things that consumers need and you wouldn't know that the home warranty company doesn't cover it until you need it covered. I just bought a new house. If I had a say with what the seller was offering, I would not have selected American Home Shield.

Called American Home Shield (Again for another property) about a main drain issue with my house. They sent out a Harvey Contractors for the plumbing issues. Plumber pulls out small snake and starts snaking the main drain line from inside the house. He pulls out some stuff (places it on the floor) and says he can't snake any further because this part of the plumbing extends outside the house... even though it's inside the house where it starts and there is no outside clearout.
So I called my other insurance for plumbing (Covered by my water company.) The deductible for them is $50.00 and their plumber brought an industrial snake. He cleared the main drain in 15 minutes and proceeded to ensure the drain line was completely clear... Now my drain line is working fine and there wasn't any grass or roots like the AHS plumber suggested. Not sure who AHS has been using as their professional but they obviously do not know what they are doing. Next time I will call my Water Company's contractor first... Cheaper and more efficient.

Not sure where they are buying ovens from but that wouldn’t even cover 1 oven. I had no choice to go with the second option to repair the faulty part- 3-5 weeks to get my ovens functional!! How do they expect families to function without an oven for over a month. I decided to part ways with them and cancelled my contract - making sure that the open service requests would be finished out- I was already charged for the service call!! The icing on the cake came when American Home Shield didn’t cancel my account in time (because their retention department is flooded with cancellation calls - the rep I spoke to told me this) and then proceeded to charge me for another month!
When I finally got a hold of a rep in retention - 1 hour and 47 min later - she told me that they would cancel but keep the funds they had deducted for early cancellation. I am on a month to month draw after this many years but she refused to believe me or give her full name. She was rude and refused to pass me onto a supervisor. Her first name is SAMANTHA. So at this point I’m without ovens and been charged for an extra month!!
This is the WORST COMPANY EVER! They are fine as long as you don’t actually have major appliances that need to be replaced. They are cheap and want to fix things for nothing with total disregard to what they are putting customers through. I have NEVER posted a review before but I feel I need to warn future customers. I had a service call a few weeks ago because our upstairs AC kept kicking off and I had to reset the circuit breaker in the panel. I called in and paid the $70 service call fee and they dispatched a local AC company to check it out. The technician checked it and said the suspected the circuit breaker was bad and "turned it over to electrical". Quickly an electrician showed up and replaced the circuit breaker and that fixed the problem. A few days ago I got an email from AHS saying I owed them another $70 for the call, a "second service" was required to fix the AC problem. I pay $900 per year for this service and now I'm being double charged to fix a minor AC issue. Don't think for one second if you pay for the service call that your cost is taken care of, they can apparently keep tapping you for more $70 hits if your job requires any other "services". I've used AHS for 30 years and I'm currently looking for other options.

I had a total of 5 visits by the same company to fix the same issues with my central air conditioning unit over a period of 2 months. The issue was finally resolved but somehow I was charged an additional $75 trade fee after the service was complete. I contacted AHS about the fee and had to request a supervisor to remove the additional fee. It's been over 2 weeks and I am getting emails from them demanding payment of the additional $75. Whenever I call back, I am on hold for over 30 minutes, no matter what time of day I call. I just wish that someone would answer the phone and take care of this issue!!!

I have had my policy of over 20 years and my most recent experience is cause for me to look elsewhere. I reported an issue with washer in March and service technician came and could not find the leak but did order parts for agitator issue. 3 months later my washer was leaking and flooding my laundry room every time I used it. I reported again and service technician came but could not even look at it as the sticker with model number was missing. Was there previously in March when parts were order but must have been removed by technician. Second company came out and reported same issue. 3rd and original service company was called out but told me one thing and then reported no malfunction found on washer - total lie. 4th company came out and was the only one to take apart and find issue. Cracked tub liner.
When I called to find out status as after a week no one had reached out to me, I was told parts would take 3-5 weeks to come in and then time to schedule installation - another 1.5 - 2 months without. I was told they would reimbursement the cost of less than $300 if I wanted to purchase one but even though the washer was 20 years old they would not issue a reimbursement cost to replace. So the fact that I will now be without appliance for 5-6 months, damage to new baseboards, and new tile due to leaking and rust under washer, being a customer for 20 years, did not count for any additional consideration. This is not a company you want to deal with and I will be seeking another company to do my business with. I am a very patient person but 6 months without and no considerations for age or lack of use or their service companies removing or reporting falsely counted for anything. BUYER BEWARE - look elsewhere!

Our water heater stopped working due to it tripping our circuit breaker. We requested service with AHS and they had a plumber come out to our house this morning. When the plumber called to verify our warranty, AHS said they would not pay for the claim. They stated this was due to secondary damage resulting from a pipe leaking above the water heater. The pipe that was leaking was the pipe supplying water to the water heater.
After waiting over an hour to speak to a representative from their authorization department, the female that I spoke to gave me attitude and stated they wouldn’t pay the claim because there shouldn’t be any pipes above the water heater. I tried to explain to her that’s where the fittings and connections are for the water supply but she wouldn’t hear it. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she told me there wasn’t one. I also then asked if there was just a general manager over her that I could speak to. She said there was a manager over her but I couldn’t speak to them. I then had her transfer me to someone else.
After waiting another 30 minutes I got a basic customer service rep who told me she couldn’t tell me who I spoke to, couldn’t speak to a supervisor (because they would only contact me through email) and she couldn’t connect me with the authorization department again. In general it was an awful experience with an awful company that we plan on calling to cancel our service with.

20 Days of no downstairs air conditioning in South Carolina (before and after Hurricane Florence) due to incompetent subcontractors. (initially denied a new compressor) Only after I read my contract that says South Carolina residents may file a complaint with the South Carolina Board of Insurance did they issue a 2nd contractor (my original choice but I didn't want to wait on hold for over an hour - the usual wait time to request a specific contractor - my mistake) who said I needed a new compressor (duh!) which was diagnosed by my electrician and an independent contractor before the incompetent subcontractor said it was due to leaves in my unit.
Then, it took 6 day for AHS purchasing to send the compressor - to the WRONG Carrier facility (180 miles away in Charleston). I have had AHS out 7 times in the past year for my HVAC system yet they refuse to do anything but put a "band-aid" on my equipment. Need I say more? I will be checking to see how many days it takes AHS to take this review off this site. Any bets?

We signed up for AHS home warranty and decided to use it once we saw there were a few electrical issues and a shower leak that was rotting our baseboards and drywall. As for the electrician, the company they chose for the original request never contacted us. We even called and he never called back nor came to fix our problem, this was in March of 2018. We called to pursue it but being on hold for an hour multiple times just to get zero results became tiresome so we eventually forgot about it until the plumbing issue arises in June.
We live in Guntown, MS, they send a plumber from Memphis, TN which is almost 2 hours from where we live, and when the plumber gets there, he doesn't fix the problem because he claims he didn't have the tools and when he left, we examined it ourselves and noticed he misdiagnosed the problem when we, not the plumber, actually turned on the shower to see where the source of the leak was and it did not add up with his diagnosis. However, since the plumber never came back and started to give us the runaround by planning to come out on specific days and never show up, we were never able to address the actual problem which was an obvious connector leak.
That was in June or July, it is now October and after hounding them, we finally talked to someone who was able to understand our frustration and issues. She assigned us a new electrician who came out and fixed our problems quickly. She also put in a request for a new plumber with a note not to choose the one we had before, however I assume the note did not reach others in the company because we were assigned to the same plumber and he did not come and fix our problem... again. So we just decided to call a repair company ourselves who was local. He came out the next day and fixed our issue. we called to cancel our entire AHS service because obviously, AHS is not worth the headache based on the amount of money we've paid throughout the year.
Even that was a problem. No one answered in the department we were told to contact so a cancelation inquiry was put in and we were suppose to get a call back in 24 hours. That did not happen so we tried again after 48 hours and was given the same information. Still, nothing happened. At this point we are so frustrated and tired of paying for nothing that we decided we are just going to contact Better Business Bureau because that's pretty much all we can do. I advise others to just avoid this company.
In the end, base on the overall customer service, their choice of technicians and the amount of money you pay each month, they are not worth it. You may come out better handling everything yourself, because even if you let AHS know your issues, they will not return any fees associated with unfixed requests and apparently they will not work with you if you would like to pick a repair company on your own that you know will do a good job, or at least be more responsive, local and convenient.
Good afternoon Kimberly,
I understand your concerns with your most recent service experience. to have the plumbing repaired. I would be glad to assist with getting the repairs completed and resolve your concerns.

I've had AHS for over a year. They are fine for small repairs. If your a/c breaks then you are better off hiring someone yourself. My a/c broke and it took several days to get someone out to evaluate the problem, and another week and a half to get the new part. The new part was rebuilt and lasted only a few hours. After calling the a/c company (Airtronics) to inquire when the new part was coming in they repeatedly told me that it had been ordered. It has been a few weeks and still no part. I live in Texas and it's very hot. Can you imagine going without a/c for 3 to 4 weeks? I finally hired my own contractor and paid to have it fixed.
AHS doesn't hire quality vendors, they make you wait on hold for at least 20 minutes and they don't offer good problem resolution. I lost my tenant over this repair and have incurred damages. Most of the vendors that AHS uses always try to get more money by telling you that you need more work that isn't covered by AHS. I've had a couple of good vendors come to make repairs but the majority are crooks.

I have had American Home Shield for several years, and until recently I have not called on them much. But, almost two years ago, we put in a service request for our ice maker, and they sent a company out to fix it, but they were not able to. We had to make multiple requests to get it fixed, but they keep sending the same company who cannot fix it. We have been doing this for almost two years now, and we still do not have a working ice maker. It has been incredibly frustrating, to not only be paying the service fees, taking time away from work to meet the technicians, and still have no working ice maker.
This past year we had another horrible experience with our a/c. In 103 degree heat, it broke, we called AHS and they were not going to send anyone for several days. We emphasized the seriousness of the situation, but again, they were no help. We ended up having to pay a company not in their “network” to fix it, which was extremely maddening given we have been paying for a home warranty too. This company is terrible, and I will never use them again. I am stuck until next April with them, and they refuse to refund me, or make any of these issues right for me. I feel like I have wasted so much money!

I called on 10-1-2018 for service on my Central A/C unit, worse contact. All the phone numbers dialed were never being answered. We called from 2 different phones. Now I'm presently on the phone finally after another 40 min wait. I ask the associate for a phone number of where I can make a complaint and he puts me on hold. At this time now the timing has gone further!!! I was offered two choices of companies which one of them was 300 some miles away would be here 4 days later to service my AC. The other who I picked had answering service that says will not get back to me until after 2 pm so I called AMS and the rep emails AC co. which call me back at 2 just to say he would be arriving 4pm but at 5pm he is no show.
I called him and no answer. Then he called at 5:30 pm sounding drunk slurring his words and says he can't come but that he will be here at 12 noon so I asked, "Ok 12noon right?" Then he changes time to 12-3 somewhere in there. I just said, "No. Thank you" and I'll call the AHS AGAIN, which I did and again waited Again to get answer. Requested to speak to supervisor which never received but put me on hold and never came back to phone!!! This is by far the worse company I have ever had to deal with!!! I had to hire a company on my own to come service my A/C. Paid night call but now in working order! If someone has the contact number to upper management pls post it! Unsatisfied Family.

My garage door wouldn't open all the way and so I put American Home Shield on the phone and submitted a claim. Three days later, techs from Reliable Garage Doors came out. The first time they were here, they thought the issue was something about the spring. After they fixed that, they told me that there was something wrong with how the garage door was being programmed. So, they reprogrammed it but the garage door still didn't work. They came back a couple of days after that and they replaced another board in it, but the garage door still wasn't working right. They then replaced the garage door opener and the garage door has been fine ever since. It was frustrating that the techs had to come out thrice, but the overall experience was fine. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. Having a warranty on your property is very valuable and American Home Shield has resolved every problem I've had.

I made a claim over the phone for an electric stove repair and the AHS agent was fine. The customer service for the contractor company, on the other hand, was horrible. I had an appointment and the tech did not show up. I had called about an hour before the appointment was scheduled just to see if I was still on the schedule ‘cause it was getting pretty late in the day, and there was no answer. I left a message, and I didn’t get a response. I called the next morning and no one answered, and I left another message to contact me.
After not getting a message, I called American Home Shield and told them about it, and they said they would try and do something about it. Eventually, a person showed up and he was professional. He had to order a part, so we had to wait another 48 hours. He got the part in, came out, did his work and was gone. However, there was a mix-up on the first service. An address was not put on the trip sheet, so the guy didn’t know to even come to my house. Still, now the stove is working fine and that was all I needed.

It’s a small business so the owner was one of the guys that came out with his technician. They fully explained everything. They even had to come back the next day because another part the AC was connected to whatever the original part was. They said because they had been going on for so long, and that piece broke, the other part may go out and it did. So they fixed that as well. They were really spot on. After the repair, the AC has been working great. My house is excellent. I’ve had AHS for years. Even my friend, my father, and my brother-in-law have American Home Shield now.

Our AC stopped running. The fan unit on the inside furnace would blow. But the unit outside wasn't kicking on, and so I had to report that to American Home Shield. The first time I reported it, a repairman came out and he said there was something that had tripped, so he replaced that part. About 10 days later, it happened again. The second repairman came out, and he said that the fan for the unit outside wasn't replaced quickly the first time, and it would overheat. He showed me where the fan bearings had worn out, so the fan wasn't spinning at full capacity. He also noticed some residue on it, so he said he thought my coils were leaking on the outside unit. So, he turned it in, and it took a long time to get a new unit. They had to figure out how to replace the outside unit.
The contractor was awesome because they showed me stuff that I could probably do on my own if I ran into issues. They explained everything they were doing and showed me all the stuff that had gone wrong, so I knew they weren't trying to pull the wool over my eyes. When we first bought the house and we signed for it, I had to submit a request because the air conditioner went out. We had somebody that American Home Shield had sent out come out and replace the fan on the external unit, and the serviceman I had come out this last time told me that the motor they put it there was a four-in-one motor. It wasn't meant to last over a year and I made it for about five years with it. But I didn't know that, and so they educated me on that, and I know what to look for now.
The claims process seemed fairly easy. The only thing I didn't really like was I had to call and schedule the appointment for somebody to come out. I thought that once I had made the request, they would tell me when somebody was gonna come out and be available. But I had to do that on my own. I also had to call American Home Shield to follow up because I kept tracking the status of my request online and I didn't see an update. The repair service didn't submit the information to initiate the approval, so there were some communication problems between the repair service and American Home Shield. But overall, American Home Shield did a great job. Once I called, they were able to help me. But I didn't like having to wait for someone. I’d been on hold forever if I had to get through to somebody. But the only way really to get through American Home Shield is to call. There's no online chat, so that kinda stung, but I know they’re very busy.

The AHS reps help us out when we call in for our claims and their contractors represent themselves well when they come out and do the job. We had a clogged toilet and when the tech first came, he put a new floater on the toilet downstairs but it didn’t work. And then he came out again, and put something down in there and made it start flushing. Then on our shower, we were trying to figure out why it was leaking. We saw the water dripping from the shower head, and the technician replaced that and stopped the leaking. Overall, we've had a great experience with American Home Shield.

I wish they would've worked on the weekends, but I understand that it's gonna cost more money. However, if I have something break and I put it in online, I still hear back from the company and they tell me they that they would call me on Monday.
For my electrical outlet claim, the company called me, gave me an estimate, and did the work the same day. The contractors who came were very polite and thorough. They went over what they were gonna do before they did it. They told me what options I had and they showed me everything that they did. They also tested everything after they did it to make sure it worked. I paid them and after that, they were out. American Home Shield did a good job.

My condenser unit in my AC wasn’t functioning and AHS sent out a contractor. At first, they said the whole unit need to be replaced. When I got the estimate back from American Home Shield, they said it was gonna be umpteenth thousand some odd dollars for it and asked for a second opinion from another contractor. They came out and said we just need to replace a small capacitor and add a little bit of Freon, and then it worked fine ever since. The first contractors were completely incompetent. I had gone back and looked at their reviews and unfortunately they were terrible. It was about 24 hours later when the second one came out. They were professional and wasn’t trying to do any more than what he needed to do.
When I initially thought that I was gonna have to have the condenser replaced, they had a lot of hidden charges. You have to look deep into the contract to see all the little things that they don’t cover and it’s not really disclosed when I first got the policy. But I wish there’s better coverage. It’s a 30-year old unit. If they did have to replace it, they’re gonna have to bring it up to the current code. But it just seems like they’re just nickel and diming you on little things here and there. It just added up to just thousands some odd dollars.
I’ve had this policy from AHS for a long time. We’ve had it over 20 years and the coverage is very good when it comes to ACs. I’ve used them for other things around the house and it was just fine. In California, they’re phasing out the coolant they’re using in this particular unit. They said they only cover the first $10 per pound when per power right now, it’s over $100. For what I’ve been paying into this policy for the last 20 years, they should have a little better coverage when it comes to AC repair.
