If you flush the toilet, it would continue to run and so, you would use it again at another time and it would stop. Use it another time and it would continue to run. Phil, the rep from Haggart Plumbing came and made his assessment. He was very experienced, thorough, knowledgeable and had a good skill set in plumbing. He corrected both issues and he was expedient. He arrived when he said he would arrive and he was not rushed. He answered all of my questions. He was very friendly, outgoing and professional. Now, if we get up at night to use the toilet and flush it, we go back to bed and we have no worries because he did a tremendous job. He changed out the interior guts of the tank because that is where the issue was but more so an inoperable fill valve.
I had another vendor come out which was Bill’s Appliance and Video. These people were on time, knew what they were doing and their personnel were trained. It's been a win-win for me, and a win-win for the vendors and AHS. I've been spreading the word about American Home Shield to the point where my neighbors have purchased the product. It's a good investment in your home because you never know when the unexpected will occur.

American Home Shield sent JT Ultimate Pools to check on our pump. It was loud and making big noises. The tech said at that time that they were very efficient. However, it couldn’t be replaced because there was a piece that could be replaced that would continue to make it work. They did that and it continued to work, but it still made lots of noise, which was something we had to live with. We continued to run our pool and do it really loud but it ended up going out. Fortunately, we were able to reach out to AHS and the contractor. The pieces and parts were covered under warranty and they did a good job.
We were not happy with a company that came out before. It was through American Home Shield and when our pool started going bad, we specifically requested not to have them because I felt like they sabotaged some of our pool equipment. There were also stripped screws that weren’t there before. On the other hand, we highly recommend JT Ultimate Pools. They were very knowledgeable and they took care of our needs. I felt very comfortable having them at my home. We’re also happy with American Home Shield and we’ve recommended them to some other people. Once, it took a long time to fix our refrigerator but we just didn’t understand that the part wasn’t even available. If we would’ve understood that it was the reason why it took six weeks to fix, it would’ve been understandable and now we know that.
Hi Johnelle,
I enjoyed reading your review regarding the request to have your pool repaired. I am pleased to hear about the repairs that were covered as well as your experience with JT Ultimate Pools. I hope you continue to enjoy your AHS warranty!

A little piece of pan fell behind the stove and I was trying to get it. When I tried to move myself a little bit, something popped loudly and the stove completely stopped working. I checked online to see my coverage and I like that my stove was covered. So, I did an online claim, which was very easy and user friendly. I put my claim in on Sunday and the next day, someone emailed me. He set up a time, came out to my house and fixed my stove. He was on time, friendly and very professional. He also explained what was going on and even shared with me that there was a cover that needs to go on the back of my stove. He recommended that I get that cover on my stove to be a little bit more safe. He gave ideas and pointers and he was very nice.

My garbage disposal had stopped working and AHS sent a very nice guy and found out that it was the switch, not the garbage disposal. He transferred it to the electrician who came and who was very delightful. The electrician just replaced the switch and everything was working again. The only problem I had was that AHS charged me twice but they corrected it once we discussed it, so it’s fine. I would use AHS again in a heartbeat.

My outside unit on the central air stopped working. I called American Home Shield, and the next day, the technician came. He assessed the problem and told me the motor was dead. He changed the motor, put a new one in, and the air worked after that. He explained to me every step of what he was doing and he did excellent work. He was very professional and my claim was handled well. My experience was good and I'll recommend friends to American Home Shield.

There was an air conditioning issue in the home, and it was kind of an odd situation. We thought it might have been electrical but when the electrical company came out, they said it had nothing to do with that and that it was more of an air conditioning issue. The motor would run but it wouldn’t cool or anything. So we called AHS to see if we could get some assistance to have someone take a look at it.
The process was really quick and clear. They provided us the information in terms of how much we would have to pay out of pocket and what the steps were They were able to give us an appointment within days from when we called. Moreover, the person that they sent was very pleasant, very knowledgeable and provided even more information than we needed outside of just the air conditioner - things that could potentially impact the air conditioner as well. They provided us all of that information in detail and got the air conditioner up and running. I would highly recommend AHS.

The furnace would blow air but the actual air conditioning unit would not kick in. I was pretty sure I knew what it was and that it needed a capacitor to kick it in but I wasn’t equipped to fix it. I submitted a claim with AHS online and that process was simple and straightforward. Then I got a call a day later. AHS sent out BMR HVAC Services and they were fantastic. Their tech showed up, tested the AC, and told me what the issue was. Then he went to his truck and said that he didn't have the size capacitator in his truck. He said he'd have to run to the store and grab it but the store is across town. He was back in 15 minutes though and I was impressed that he made it in that time. And when he got back, he said that the repair would be done in five minutes, and it was. He kicked it in and everything ran great since then, so I had no issues.
But before this recent claim on my AC, I had one for my refrigerator and the guy who came out was not a technician. He even admitted that and said that he was an engineer. Also, he fixed it but didn’t take a lot of care in doing so. Often, it seems that AHS' contractors are kind of mom-and-pop shops and they work out deals. I've submitted five claims so far and four of them have been excellent. Those were done by the kind of companies that take pride in their work because their reputation is their name or their business. But this particular guy who worked on my refrigerator was not like that. He scraped up my fridge and took some chunks off of the front veneer when he was trying to get the panel. So there were chunks around the water part and that broke off. Then he pulled that front component off of the face of the refrigerator, but he used a putty knife to do it.
I let AHS know about my experience with that guy and they said that that was the contractor's issue. I was frustrated about it but I didn’t pursue it and I just wanna be done with the whole thing. Other than that, my experience with AHS has been good overall. I have them for two and half years now and on the few claims that I've had to submit, they were always fairly quick.

When my dryer would not start, I put a claim through American Home Shield's website. They then called me to set up an appointment with the company that was gonna come out. The contractor came out within three days and he was a very nice man. He told me what was wrong and said that the dryer needed a new motor. He had to have somebody pick up the part, and then he grabbed it and came back. He fixed the dryer up and it was good as new. The dryer got fixed on the same day that the guy came and it has been performing wonderfully since. It was a very pleasant appointment. I enjoy American Home Shield's service so I've kept them.

Choose American Home Shield over everybody else. I've had two claims so far and the only thing I didn't like when I spoke with them was the hold time. Other than that, the representatives explained everything. They got everything started and taken care of. The second time I called, the representative was very helpful. She told me something I didn’t even know. American Home Shield sent out a contractor when the AC unit wasn’t turning on and he was awesome. The quality of his work was a 10, on a scale of 1 to 10, and everything has been wonderful since then. If anything ever goes wrong with my AC, I’d prefer to use that company because the guy was honest and efficient. All in all, American Home Shield did an awesome job.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good. It has been easy submitting a claim through them and I do it online as it is more convenient. I called them once and I was on hold for a long time. When the pilot on our water heater would not stay lit. The technician from Triple S Plumbing came and he lit it and I have not had a problem with it since. He was very good, pleasant and professional. Prior to that, I had an issue with my refrigerator that is in the garage, and the repair guy was really good as well. He taught me a few things about appliances that I did not know.
However, last week, I was having another issue with my plumbing and AHS sent out a different company. There was a leak in my garage and I did the online thing to request service from AHS, but by the time the contractor came out, the leak was dried up. My nephew was there at that time because I had to work. And so, I sent my nephew the pictures of where the leak was coming from. Then, the contractor said that they don’t open up the walls and that we have to do that instead. Only then when they will take a look. I told them that there was a problem there. But the guy said that the trash can is over there and the leak looks like oil. I said, “My little trash can doesn’t leak, and if it’s oil, that would be from my car, which I don’t even park in my garage.” I told him that the leak might be due to the sewage. So, they put a little hole in the wall and said that they don't see anything, and then they left.
When I went out there, I saw the little hole that they put in the wall. I looked through the hole and could tell that there was some type of leak there. I was a bit irritated because I think that the contractor could have looked a bit further. That was not the first time it has leaked like that, so there was a problem somewhere. I also wanted them to fix my leaky shower. It was fixed for two days, but then it started leaking again. This is the first time I ever had issues with the contractor that came out to look at the issue. But, other than that, Ameican Home Shield has been good.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Michelle. I do apologize for the wait time but I'm glad to know that we were able to resolve your issue. We look forward to servicing your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

I submitted a claim online recently for my pool pump and the process was easy. Their site is user-friendly, although there had been times when it was basically down when I went to submit a claim and I had to wait until the next day. But that doesn’t happen very often, just a couple of times at random. The service for that particular claim was really good. The contractor was prompt and got the item fixed, and everything has been working fine since the repair. American Home Shield is a good service and I’ve had it for 12 years. I have had a couple less than stellar vendors that they’ve had come out, but for the most part, I’ve had a very good experience. I would suggest American Home Shield to others for sure.

The microwave and the dryer both went out on the same week. When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I did it online and the site was friendly. However, they could improve on the delivery time. They should not give me a window from 8:00 to 5:00. I work and I need just an hour window or a two-hour window. At least, I know I can work half a day, or I have to leave work early, or go to work later. If he’s a tech, and he’s an hour or 30 minutes away, then give me an hour call or ask if I could be home within a timeframe. I have to pay for the insurance. It’s not free. So, if I don’t go to work, I can’t pay for it which defeats the purpose.
The guy who came out for the microwave looked at it and got it to come on. Then, he said it didn’t go off and it was something about the motherboard. He did a ticket on that and yesterday, I got a call. The lady gave me the model number and she asked about replacing it with a new one. I will call her back to let her know that we want to take a new microwave.
A guy came out for the washing machine and the dryer. He replaced a relay on the dryer. He thought it may have went out because of the heat blowback. He checked the vent going out and he said that he didn’t see anything in it but then it may be something down in it, so I may have a problem later on. I asked him why wouldn’t he troubleshoot it now so he or no else wouldn’t have to come back for this issue. He said it was what the ticket was about. He did what he was sent out to do. The dryer is working but he said it could happen again. This is why I got the insurance and instead of a preventive measure, he should have taken care of it now. Nevertheless, I’m happy with AHS and I’m extremely satisfied with the service that I got and what I paid for. I've recommended them and four people have picked up their service from me telling them the experience I’ve had with AHS. These guys are real and this is a legit company.

My water heater busted and was completely useless. After filing an online claim I was told it was going to be a week before a plumber could come out to look at it. Upon his arrival he looked at it, agreed that it was busted, said there was going to be an additional $975 charge paid to him, and another 7 day wait before he could get back out to replace it. I reviewed the invoice for the extra charges and it was obvious I was being grossly overcharged. I mean $250 to install a $40 part that a child could replace??? Among other issues. Apparently the contractors only make their money on an AHS call if they overcharge with "extra" fees. When I called AHS with a question I was transferred 3 times and on hold for a total of 2 hours just to ask one simple question, for which I got a one word answer. Ridiculous!! Won't be renewing.

I recently had an issue with my furnace not working. AHS sent out two tech who gave the same diagnosis. When I heard back from AHS I was told that they would not cover it since it was a recall issue. Lie number 1. I contacted Carrier and there is no recall. The part in question was made is still used to this day. When I called AHS back and confronted them about this they backtracked and told me I was right.
After some waffling the rep came back and told me they were still declining it because it was a pre-existing condition that would have been caught in an inspection. According to my contract if the appliance is visually sound and turns on with no obvious issues then it will pass their inspection. My furnace was running just fine up until the night I called them. So how can there be a pre-existing condition if it was functioning just fine by their definition. Lie number 2. Now I am stuck paying for a home warranty I would rather just cancel and out 125 dollars for a service visit that did absolutely nothing for me. Plus I need to find my own repair company and pay out of pocket for the new heat exchanger and its installation. Not a happy customer.

I've had American Home Shield for about 15 years and I've been pretty happy for the most part. I'm allowed to submit claims online. However, if I do it online, there's no way to say that I have two problems. For example, if it's the sink and the toilet or the sink and the shower, it will only take one issue. And so, I have to actually call and I can be put on hold for quite some time.
This day was a different system although I waited on the phone for over an hour before for someone to pick up. I called them as I have a leak in my shower and bathtub in one bathroom. The answering machine took my phone number and they called me back within a half hour, so that was pretty good. Triple S Plumbing would be here within a couple of hours and I've never had a problem with them. AHS tend to send the same people if you've been happy with them. AHS has been pretty good although it's not like having your own personal plumber come out. You have to go through a process, they have procedures and they don’t necessarily replace something as fast as you'd like it replaced. I keep it year after year and so I'm satisfied enough.

My air-conditioner did not work and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online on July 6. That was pretty easy but my problem is that the response time sucked. They responded the following week but the contractor they sent out was a great company. It was Big Sky and the gentleman's name is Justin. He checked the air-conditioning unit and my thermostat to see what was going on. I explained to him my thermostat wasn't connected to the air-conditioner. I would turn on a little flip switch if I had to turn it on. We found out later why. The thermostat only has two wires and when you have air-conditioning and furnace on the same one, you have to have the four wires. But nothing is changed on that.
American Home Shield took their sweet old time on deciding what they needed to do with it. He tried to charge it, but it lasted maybe 15 minutes and then quit. There was a leak in there and it was really hard to find. So, AHS said to change out the compressor and something else in it but they couldn't find the parts for it. So then, he came back again and tried something else they wanted him to do. That was two weeks later.
Meanwhile, I was calling and nobody talked to me. I ended up where I kept calling every day. First, I called in at AHS to find out what was going on and it was going through their some of their divisions that do the, "Okay." Then, after a three-week thing, they finally Okay-ed me and it wasn't until August 7th that they put in the new air-conditioner. I'm an asthmatic and we were having 100-degree days here. So, our neighbor across the street loaned me their in-the-window air conditioner to run, so I could at least keep whatever room I was in cold. Also, one of the supervisors said that they were waiting for the $100 deductible because of that problem but I haven't received another $100 bill from them to pay. Other than that, I would still recommend AHS because they replaced the unit. Someone suggested that I do the American Home Shield so, I have suggested it to many other people.

The AC wasn’t blowing out cold air. Initially, I went through the online process and American Home Shield dispatched a company. I spoke to the company, and then they came out and said that they weren’t able to complete the task. They were, nevertheless, okay. I then contacted the home warranty again, and then they dispatched a second company that was able to correct the problem. They were friendly, too. Then, I was out of town for two weeks, and when I came back, the air conditioner froze up. There was a part that was replaced that when they put it, they did not tighten it correctly, and so they had to come back out and correct it. When they came back out and corrected the problem, I did not have any issues since. AHS is worth it.

I haven't been disappointed with American Home Shield except when we first started out. I was told by everyone that I should submit a claim for my garage door opener but it turned out that I wasn't covered for that. The agent said I would have to pay more to get covered on that so I paid more. But then American Home Shield wouldn't cover it! My agent saved their bacon there though. She's a great agent and she definitely advocated for me within the company's system. I didn't even manipulate her. I told her what I thought and she took it up and did something about it. I was able to put a new garage door opener and I also received a little bit of a rebate because of her intervention.
It all played out well for me so I'm happy. But I can envision a lot of people getting and feeling horribly ripped off and causing them some very bad reviews online. When somebody is specifically upgrading to get a particular kind of coverage, American Home Shield should not just tell the customer to wait until they've paid their fee and they've gotten their policy. American Home Shield should say what things they would not cover due to that coverage. Because that did not happen with me. If there are gotchas in that thing, then people need to know about it. At least, I would have been warned about it and it would have been my problem then.
With my most recent claim, GE Electric had to come out after the inspection on the house found what seemed to be an electrical problem in the jet tub in the master bath. The inspector turned out to have been in error about that though. It was not an electrical problem. It was a tub problem. We also had a problem in the kitchen with our can lights. They were acting very erratically. So we were concerned about wiring problem in the kitchen. But the electrician found out that there was no wiring problem in the kitchen. They did a good job. But I discovered that the electrician had incidentally clipped some breakers in the electrical box and we lost our air conditioning for a day. So we called him back out. It took us about six months to get our air conditioner fixed. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with the damn thing. The contractor came out and didn’t know what was wrong with it. We called Home Shield again and they had a contractor come out but they didn’t have the part. So, they had to order the part. When the part came in, they came out. Then we had to pay for the Freon which we weren’t told we had to do. They finally got the thing fixed, but it took us six months of waiting. They would never tell us what was wrong with it and that there was a problem. If I hadn’t gotten on the phone and started complaining, it would never have been fixed. I filed an online claim with AHS for a dishwasher that was not operating and their website is friendly enough. But I'm not sure if the item was back ordered by the manufacturer, because it took a long time to get the item delivered to my house. It took weeks. But I was impressed with the fella who did the installation. The item was replaced and the new item does work. The only real hang up was the time it took to get the item delivered. I was very satisfied with the whole experience.

Most of my stuff are fairly new but newer stuff these days don't last longer than the old stuff. So I thought it was best to protect myself. And so far, American Home Shield has been good. It's easy to submit a claim online and when I filed for my dishwasher, they sent out Supreme Residential Services. The dishwasher was not draining properly according to the LED information. When the technician came out the first time, he had to order the pumps. Then he came back to put the pumps in. After those were replaced, I tried the dishwasher a few times but it still was not draining. The dishwasher was cleaning but it wasn’t drying anything because the system was telling itself that it wasn’t draining even though it actually was. I was still getting the same default LED display.
I contacted American Home Shield back and they sent the technician out again. He already knew what to order and once he got the part in, he called me, came out and put it in. He replaced the motherboard, which was apparently the problem because now, the dishwasher is working great. It took American Home Shield a little while but they got it and I was very pleased.

I filed claims online to American Home Shield and navigating the website was great. My fridge was leaking on the bottom and it was getting on to the kitchen floor. The technician said he couldn’t find the leak from the kitchen fridge and it continued to leak for a little while after that but it stopped now. It was causing the kitchen floor to buckle a little bit but he said it may be condensation. He recommended that we clean our compressor so he cleaned that and charged us for it. He said that he cleaned out the drain but that didn’t fix it and we still don’t know what the problem is. Also, the burners on my gas cooktop weren’t lighting consistently and the flames were not uniformed. The cooktop is still not functioning the best and if it’s possible to get it replaced, I would like to know how bad it has to be before we can do something about it or what the process is.

We had a great experience dealing with the tech that they sent out. He was there when he said he would be and he was courteous. It was my first claim in the two years I've had the policy and I didn't know how it works. The rep I dealt with helped and guided me. He was so nice. The problem with the washer was a button and because parts for it couldn't be found, AHS replaced the whole unit. The part for the microwave also couldn't be found, so the unit got replaced as well. The timer on the dryer was not working properly and the repair company fixed it. As for the icemaker, the repair company replaced a part of it.

If you own a home and you get past your 5- or 10-year warranty, you need to think outside the box. As a single woman with a home, I felt that the home warranty was something I needed to help protect myself. And American Home Shield was really good to me. The first time I ever used them was when the line on the outside of my air conditioner kept freezing up and getting ice around it. I would come home and there would be no air in the house. And my house would get hot. That happened a couple of times.
I did that claim online and then American Home Shield gave me the name of someone who was supposed to get back to me in a couple of hours. But they never got in contact with me. American Home Shield was very good though. When I called them to say that I was never getting a response, they obliged me and were very accommodating. It was August and it was just too hot. I told them I couldn’t sleep in the heat and they tried to get me in the most comfortable state. The man I dealt with was very knowledgeable and they called Tommy Garner Air and Heating.
Tommy Garner came right out that night and the technician did something to make the AC stay on. Then he called American Home Shield to see what they would pay to replace a part. It was some piece that was wrong with the unit because it was dropping the pressure. I don’t feel like the house now is as cool as it was but that could be me. The air conditioner was working fine before I cut the unit off. Besides, American Home Shield really went beyond what I thought they would have done.

Overall, my experience has been good. We’ve had American Home Shield off and on for the last 30 years and when it’s off, it’s because we moved and our warranty company is whoever the seller provided. It’s more on than off though, and I recommend American Home Shield. It would be nice if we got a report though. We have a rental property and one time, the renters said that the AC wasn’t working. We scheduled American Home Shield out and the contractor came out in a good time but we don’t know what happened. We don’t know if the AC is broken or if we need to do something proactively. If there was something that needed to be repaired, what was it?
The system was inspected, cleaned and serviced before the renter came in. We paid a lot of money for that so what were they fixing? The renter will forward the paperwork to us but it doesn’t tell us anything either. It says, “Generic repairs, $75.” It would be nice if we got a report, not necessarily on paper because we are all trying to get away from paper. But it would be nice if there is an online record, since we’re making the appointments online, where we can go on to our record and see a history. On this day, we had this done. We can see if the renter has called the service three times. Then maybe it’s our renter, especially if nothing was wrong.
We also had one issue with this renter where we had to call American Home Shield back in less than six weeks and they said no problem but that they may charge. We couldn’t do that online though. We had to call and when you call during the day, it could be an hour wait. My partner is usually sitting with it on speaker and listening to their music for an hour. I can’t do it if I’m at work because I’m constantly running around. I can’t leave my phone on speaker for my co-workers to hear music. Doing it online is easier and if we can do it online and indicate that it is a second call, then they can go into our records and see that the contractor was just out for the same thing.
We also can’t select who we wanna come out when doing a claim online. And not every electrician or plumber is the same. Recently, we had a call on our ice maker and when the gentleman came out, he told me to do something and if it doesn’t work, to call back and they would order a part. That was about six weeks ago, and we had to call and remind him when the part is in. But it’s not in. They didn’t update or follow up with us. Now, they’ve told us to defrost our refrigerator 24 hours before they come by and they’ll change it out. So it was not a great experience with them. In the past, we’ve had our appliance worked on and the people have been really nice. They came in and fixed the issue in a timely manner. So it would be nice if American Home Shield gave us an option to reuse someone that we were pleased with before. Other than that, we like American Home Shield and we’ll continue to work with them.

They identified the problem and fixed it, and now everything’s working fine. But we were duped the previous time and American Home Shield wasn't concerned over it. Also, they do not send someone in your area necessarily. We’re in Greenville, South Carolina and they were gonna send someone from Rock Hill and Columbia. There have been many times when the contractor never showed up on the day and time they said they were going to. If we weren’t the first call and it got later in the day, they were not gonna drive 100 miles. One time this past summer, we waited almost a week.

I have been a customer of AHS for over 10 years and there is yet a time when I am able to speak to a live person regarding anything other than setting up a service call in less that 35 minutes. There is no other way to contact/chat/email the team that sets up the monthly payment plan, works with you when buying/selling a home, or stopping service other than sitting on the phone for no fewer than 25 minutes (my average over 10 years has been 35).
In addition, the letters they send out only has the main phone number, so after sitting on hold for 35 minutes, I actually got to talk to a very nice person who advised me that they had to transfer me to another department because, even though my letter says to call (800) 766-4663 to set up a new payment plan, that's not the correct department. My service rep. attempted to locate the correct department while I was still on the line twice, but kept getting a busy signal and ended up giving me the correct phone number (888) 682-1043, which (you guessed it) takes me back to the home menu where I have to go through the whole process again... and wait on hold.
PLEASE address the following: 1. Revise your communications to direct your customers to the correct department that can assist in the issue your letter is pertaining to. 2. Improve your phone system to minimize wait times. 3. Add additional features like "live chat" or even asking for a call-back number so a representative can call me. 4. Allow the set-up of a payment plan online. I have been happy with the coverage and service you AHS has provided over the years, but the customer service issues listed are well below industry standards and should be addressed.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

We have had the service for 2 contract years. The first year was purchased from the seller when we bought the house, and we only needed service once. Since purchasing the second year, we have made multiple service requests, but 95% of the time, no one ever shows up! AND, they can never fit us in for 2 weeks, 3 weeks, definitely not in a timely manner. Imagine not having a furnace in the winter for 3 weeks. Great, right? We have had to call repeatedly to tell them that, after taking off work to have necessary appliances fixed, that their service company no-showed, or for them to tell us the company transferred the service- without telling us, and for no apparent reason. They've charged us for no-show appts and refuse to take the balance off our account, even though no service person showed up.
The one time a service person did show up, we were told that there was an exclusion that they didn't cover, even though it is not mentioned in our contract. When explaining the no-shows, the taking off of work, just the general inconvenience of the whole thing, their response is, "Well. You can just keep waiting or pay to fix it yourself." Don't waste your money. With the amount that we paid to have the AHS contract, we could have paid it ourselves and had the service done.
Currently on week 2 of waiting to get our washer fixed. Again, they cancelled last minute today after my husband taking off of work to be here for the appointment. Supposedly they can come tomorrow. But we work. And we were told, "Sorry, take off work again or don't have your appliance fixed." If they bother to show up. Or wait another week until the ONLY other service company is available. Meaning there are only TWO companies that can service our appliance. How do they expect TWO companies to meet the needs of a business dealing with, how many customers do they state? Of course, after I have reviewed the company reviews, I can only assume this will never reach the public, as only the positive reviews are 'featured'. In short, we will not be renewing our contract.

We bought a older house and decided to get AHS as our home warranty. After about a year they started charging our bank account for another person's warranty. We called and tried to get it cleared up, but they insisted that they had to make sure it was okay with this other person to cancel their policy. I was shocked. They had to ask the other person if it is okay to cancel their policy. I was paying for it and I had no idea who it was. To say the least I have been on the phone for hours trying to get this resolved. Finally today, I was told it should only take another 14 to 21 days to get the money back that was used for this other policy. We shall see.
If you live in the country - Do not use this service. They are slow to get to you and they have terrible coverage. If you don't like waiting on the phone - Do not use this service. My shortest phone call out of five calls has been 38 min. My longest is around a hour. If you have time to hold and you enjoy elevator music. This is the company for you. If you want something fixed quick - Do not use this service. (I live in Texas and our A/C went out in the summer time. Our wait time for service was 4 days. I ended up calling a A/C company myself and they came out and fixed it same day).
If you like to talk to lots of service representatives and tell each one the problem you are having. Only to have to call and repeat your self each time so that they know what the problem is. This is the company for you. If you enjoy a company that does not keep their word - This company is for you. I was told that I would receive a refund within 2-3 days. Not quite so now it is 14 to 21 days. My reference number is **.
If you want to talk with the same person about your problems, and the person even gives you their ID#, don't expect that you will ever talk with that person again. (I called and asked to speak with the same rep and gave them her id#, and was told that it is impossible to speak with the same person. Why have ID #'s if you can never talk with the same person.) Overall I was not impressed. If you continue to purchases this insurance then good luck and I wish the best. I am sure there has to be happy customers out there. They just did not make me happy.

I get emails quite frequently from American Home Shield. Apparently, I had an account and it changed. So I keep getting emails telling me to come back and then I would get an email asking if I had ever heard of Home Shield. I wish the price wouldn't keep going up though, but I understand why. Nonetheless, I've also told people about the company before.
I've submitted claims through online and by calling in. I would get email statuses from them and then, pretty soon, somebody would call me to schedule a time to come out and work it out. And the technicians have been great. Everyone's worked out. Several years ago, I had a dishwasher that was leaking and I had to pull that out right away so it couldn't be inspected. Home Shield usually needs to have the situations inspected by the technician before the repair. But considering that the dishwasher leaking all over in that case, they arranged the appliance to be repaired anyway so that was really nice. American Home Shield sent High Priority Plumbing for our water heater. The service guy was very nice. He didn’t have anything in the start. He had to come back later. So unfortunately, we didn’t have water for a few days. We were out of town, so my daughter was here and the service guy came back and put the new water heater in. My only complaint is because our house is about 20 years old and the water heater was up off the ground and now the new one is down on the ground according to this guy. So we had to do a bunch of stuff for it. It cost me about 700 bucks because there was a bunch of upgrades. The guy replaced the water heater, but he said it didn’t include all of the other parts of the upgrade.
American Home Shield was helpful and their response was quick. Our air conditioner is also the same age as the house and it’s still kicking around and it keeps going out. So, we keep calling them and they just keep sending someone out to fix it. Eventually, it’s gonna have to be replaced. So, I’m thinking next year if it goes out more than twice, that’s it. I’m getting a new air conditioner because there is some point we have to rather than continue to fix it because it’s almost 20 years old.

So far, I’m satisfied with American Home Shield. I go online to submit my claims. But the latest time, I submitted the claim and then I called to talk to someone because I realized it was a recall. The contractor, Southwest Appliance, was great. Once they got the order, it took about a week for them to get to me. The repair took three trips for the contractor to get it right. The first time didn't work. They had to order a part and then they had to order the whole panel on my refrigerator. Then, water was filling up in it, and the tech had to come back. He said something was stopped up from it being frozen. When he got it right, the water was running. But it looks like it’s okay now.
American Home Shield was very accommodating. Angela, the rep who works in the office, would call me and let me know where they were. The technician had an emergency and couldn’t come, the last time, on the day he was scheduled. So, Angela called and coordinated a reschedule. Other than that, the contractor has been good to work with and timely. I like that. They were usually here at the beginning of the timeframe. When they told me they were gonna be here between 8:00 and 12:00, they were usually here about 9:00, which worked for me.

We had several issues and one of the biggest ones was that we couldn't turn off our water. The valve was broken when we tried to turn our water off. We had to call the city in and ask them to turn the water off. We were afraid that it was probably not a good thing because if we had an emergency, we would want to be able to shut that off in the house. The holding tank was also really damaged and it was causing issues with the flow of the water through the house.
I call Home Shield and tell them my problem to submit a claim. They usually tell me what they will cover and then we cover the rest. But the first representative I talked to regarding this was not really informed about plumbing. She didn't quite understand what was wrong so I had a hard time explaining it to her. But it was not a big deal because they still got the claim and we still got Modern Plumbing. And once the plumber got on with another representative with Home Shield, things got explained a little better.
When the contractor came in, he took a look at what he needed and then left because he had to go get the right parts. He couldn't get on those parts that Friday but he came back the following Monday and fixed everything. He got everything done in a timely manner and everything has been really good since then. In fact, he really helped us because we had two things that we didn't even know about. Our water pressure was way too high and he adjusted that for us. It seems that it saved us a lot of money because we were blowing out sprinklers and we couldn’t figure out why. And then he also turned down the heater because it was running overtime. So he taught us a lot. The gentleman was great.

The waste water outlet is much too high for the P-trap underneath the sink so we couldn’t run our kitchen sink until we got it repaired. I filed a claim online and American Home Shield's website was super easy and super user-friendly. It took a week and a half though to send out a contractor. He tried to repair it and realized that he needed a specialized part. He ordered it and it took a week to get it, and then he came back and installed it. With this house that has been a bit of a disaster, having American Home Shield has been well worth it.

There was a gas leak and so, we looked up our contract if it would be covered. It was and we submitted the claim to have it go through American Home Shield. However, they said that it had to be under the house in order to be covered so we were quite disappointed. Not many gas lines are under the house and you have it go from the meter from the company to the house and into the house. It was very expensive and the reason why we have AHS is to cover stuff like this. We also had a Polara stove which was like a refrigerator/oven that wasn’t covered. You could put food in it cold and program it to start cooking in 12 hours. They don’t make them anymore and so, it couldn’t be fixed. We had to get another stove and we tried to find one that was the equivalent. It was a black one and I wanted another stainless looking stove put in so I ended up paying extra to get that.
For the most part, the claims are covered with AHS but the contract needs to be clearer because I feel like we wasted time putting it through them instead of just going ahead and telling the contractors to fix it right away. Overall, the contractors were fine but we weren’t too happy with the turnaround, especially with the gas leak, because we had tenants in the house and they went without hot water for at least three days. The contractors didn’t go out until the next day and then, they didn’t fix it until a day or two. Nevertheless, they did what we needed them to do.

American Home Shield sent out Mr. Appliance for my washer and they were great. They came out here one time and was able to fix my washer with no problem. I had a problem with the contractor that they sent for the water pump though, Greenway Services. They told us that the water pump was going out on the unit but that American Home Shield would not fix it until it completely went out, until it stops pumping water. So, I made another claim and I told AHS that I didn't want Greenway back out to our home again. I know how AHS works. I know their protocol but Greenway has been out to my house about three times in the past couple of years and every time, it has been a terrible service. Since then, I've changed companies. I'm no longer an American Home Shield customer.

The only thing that was difficult back then was that he didn't have with him what was needed to fix the issue. So he had to order it. The first appointment happened later in the week and then the following Monday, he showed back up. It took him less than 15 minutes to get the unit going. The oven has been working fine after that. We have two units in our house so, the second one left some rooms that were still cool for the pets to stay in. He then turned it back on 36 hours later and it was working just fine. George, the repair guy, came out and looked at it. He said it probably had something to do with the storm because he couldn’t see any issue. So, all’s well that ends well. The same guy has come out before for our central air unit and our mini split in the garage and he was great. He fixed things that others messed up. Also, the contractor that they sent out to replace two toilet lids told us that we would be better off buying our own because what AHS will give will be the cheap ones that are not good. And then I told him that one of the bullets was not attached to the floor, they were sliding around and he said that's just the loose toilet label. I call American Home Shield to submit my claims. I give them my credit card details for them to take the copay out and pay the person. If there’s anything, they tell me, “We’ll cover all but this.” It's not hard to submit claims. They take care of it. Service Pros of Virginia recently came out for our outdoor unit compressor that went bad. They had to replace the unit, which was nuts. We paid around $200 for the cost of it, so that turned out well. It took 10 days for them to get the new unit because they had to get the new unit and a part to connect to the old system. So, we went out and we bought a stand-alone unit that we just plugged in, set in the house and vent it to the window to use because it was hot and we couldn’t do without an AC.
The service we got was great. We had a slight problem two weeks after the new unit was installed. It stopped working, and the tech came back. He came out the day that I called. When they first installed the new unit and they put the Freon in it, they watched because it would show if it needs more. So they stayed around and watched it for half an hour. When they put much in it, it stopped working, and they took out what was not needed. And so, the tech did that, and it worked fine. The unit stopped working two weeks later and it was because of that. He said he never seen one run two weeks like that before it stopped, but he was right out and fixed it.
We have had good luck with the repairs that are made by AHS. Sometimes, AHS will have a little trouble finding somebody. We’re in Central Virginia and if they don’t find somebody in the area, at times, for different needs, we had them send somebody down from Maryland or from the Eastern Shore. Two years ago, we had a different contractor that worked on the heating portion of the unit and they installed the new heating portion, and they messed up when they did it. But the next time we had to call somebody out, they fixed it. Overall, I’m happy with American Home Shield.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for an air conditioning unit in my mother’s house, and I used their online site. It's a very good site, but it was a little confusing because they told me online that I should call the contractor but the text message said the contractor would call me. Anyway, the contractor came and he was very friendly and accommodating. He had to come out three different times to do repairs on the same unit though.
I was a little frustrated because my mother is an old lady and she was in the house, and the unit would work for two to four days and would go down again, and she would have to wait for the contractor to come out. The contractor wanted to replace the unit but American Home Shield said no. They insisted that he must find a way to fix it and he did. But it took him about eight weeks to get it fixed. During that period, we had to install window air conditioning units to keep my mom comfortable. It was a little inconvenient, but we had it worked out. Then after the final repair was done, she used it for around four weeks and it worked fine.
I also have my personal home covered through American Home Shield and I had them send someone to look at my oven. The contractor said it can’t be repaired and that American Home Shield would contact me. I waited around three weeks, but I didn’t hear from them. I called them to know what the plan was and, basically, they said they can’t repair nor replace it. I have a high-end oven and apparently there was a limit on how much they would reimburse for appliances. So, up until now, I can’t find a replacement of the same size oven, other than the same brand. I’m also looking at other possible home warranty companies. The people at American Home Shield are not very good communicators and I've had mixed experiences with them.
I was hoping they would be honest in terms of fixing what needs to be fixed and replacing what needs to be replaced, but I don’t think they completely are. If you have a house with expensive appliances, don’t get American Home Shield. They’re not gonna repair them if there are no parts for them and they’re not gonna replace them. Also, if you have a house with old AC units, they’re gonna do everything in their power to fix and not replace them.

During the renovation prior to me buying the house, a pipe near the sink got unlodged from somewhere. I called American Home Shield on that but the gentleman that was here said that it was normal wear and tear and that it wasn't warranty covered. So, at the end of the day, it wasn't rectified. Then recently, I was showering and my son told me that my basement was flooding. That happened to me before and I kinda automatically knew that it was my sink pipe. I called American Home Shield and on the first call, it seemed like no one would listen to me. So I had to call several times before I finally got somebody who was taking what I was saying. I spoke to her to honor a second opinion and she told me that my $100 fee would be waived because of the added stress that I was going through with my claim.
After that, Gregory Plumbing & Heating Ltd. came out and the man that came saw that the pipe, which was the one I had an issue before, was sticking out. It was an old piece of pipe and he did everything the other people didn't do. He flushed the toilet, saw where the water was coming from, and it turned out that my sink pipe burst. He was on the point but it took him too long to get back to me to let me know when he could start the job. So, before the repair, I couldn't use my bathroom and since I only have one bathroom, I had to go stay with my aunt for a couple of weeks until I got everything done. Then Gregory Plumbing didn't come out until sometime in September, so the whole thing took a month.

American Home Shield sent out RC Appliance for our washing machine. When we put our load in the machine, it would make a sound like there was a brick in there and then it started leaking water. So, when the service guy came out to take a look at it, he took off the panel and he saw that the shocks were broken. I have a front loader and because the shocks were broken, therefore, the tumbler was hitting the top part of where my soap dispenser was at. That was where the water was leaking through onto my floor.
I went online to submit the claim on my washing machine, but I couldn’t just go to the website and look for it. I went through a few months where everything was breaking in my house and a few months before the claim on my washing machine, my dryer had to get done. So, I ended up looking through the email for my dryer, and that was how I ended up clicking to do another claim. So, I couldn’t really find it on the website. Other than that, I absolutely loved the technician that came out. If I had any other issue, I'd tell AHS in the comments, “Can you please get this company to come out?” because the company before them sucked. I had my washer done. The tech came out, parts were ordered, and then he came back out within the next two days.
When my dryer was getting fixed, they kept sending the same guy out, and he kept saying they didn't have the parts. So, then, it would take a week for the part to come in, and then he would come back out. They were ridiculous. I was not happy with that company. It took a month to get my dryer fixed. And then after that, he “fixed it.” But when I went in to just check it really quick, it was still making the same noise. I called them back in. He’s like, “Well, I don’t know what’s wrong with it.” So I said, “I’m paying you to fix it, so figure it out.” Everything’s great now. The washer and the dryer are working great.

Whenever I needed to submit a claim with American Home Shield, I would call and then they would tell me that someone would reach out to me within 24 to 48 hours to set up an appointment to come to the house. Overall, I’ve been happy with the service. With my most recent claim however, I was disappointed because they double charged me for the $75 fee.
They sent out D&J Appliances for my icemaker on my refrigerator and I had to call them back because it was not making ice for two weeks. I had to buy ice because we do not have ice at home since we were waiting on the tray to fill up. We had to slack up on using the ice because I wanted to monitor and definitely see if the icemaker was working. The tech was supposed to come last Friday, and then Saturday, and he didn’t come. Then Monday, the day before the second visit, the ice tray was filled. So on the day of his visit, Tuesday, I called D&J Appliances, spoke with Jasmine and I told her that we then had ice. Although I don't know if anything was still wrong with it because it should not take two weeks to make ice. And Jasmine agreed with me that it should not take that long, so we kept the appointment. The guy came back and checked it out and said that it looked like it was already working.
So because of that visit, AHS has been calling me saying that I owe $75, and I don’t understand why because it took the guy two weeks to come back to the house. I called back within 30 days, and I know I cannot go past that because, if I did, then I would understand if I had to pay. I have spoken to a supervisor at AHS and he said that I have to get with D&J about this. But I should not be in the middle of this. They covered me with their contractor, but now I have to deal with their contractor to fix the problem.
I called D&J anyway and told Jasmine about the situation. She told me she would contact AHS and let them know that I should not be charged another $75. She was very apologetic about it and she said that if AHS doesn’t clear all this up, she would credit me or she would do something. The people at D&J have been very nice and Jasmine is trying to work things out with AHS. So now, I am hoping that AHS would take that double charge out because if they would not, I won’t be happy and would tell people about them. We pay $62.99 every month, and then $75 if anything goes wrong, and until this last incident, I have been pleased with them.

Home Shield denied it. I have gone back-and-forth with them APX 10 times wasting 20 days and incredibly frustrated having to bathe my children in freezing water. I pay over $800 a year for this warranty and have been with them for many years. It's my opinion that all they care about is replacing things with the least expensive way that they can get away with and not the proper way that it should be done. It is October 25 and it is still not resolved. On October 5, 2018 our water heater started to leak so we had to shut it off. We called American Home Shield. A plumber came out the next day and said the water heater needs to be replaced October 6. We have an 80-gallon water heater with a recirculating pump. The recirculating pump is so we have hot water on the far end of our house instantly when we open the valve.
American Home Shield said they cannot get any 80-gallon water heaters anymore that they would replace it with a 50-gallon water heater and a unit called a mixing valve. I researched a mixing valve. The way this works is you will increase the water temperature of the water heater to APX 140° which will make it heat the water quicker which gives it about a 25% increase in water capacity. So that's about 60 gallons. What the mixing valve does it takes 150° water and cools it to a desired temperature APX 120° with the cold water which goes out to the house. Two problems with this. The main problem is we have a recirculating pump. Which means the water would come out of the mixing valve at 120, get recirculated through our house and go back into the water heater at 120°. So the water heater would then reheat it again to 140 and send it back out.
So the water heater will never shut off. It will always be reheating the water because the water heater is set at 140°. This has been explained to American Home Shield multiple times but they don't care. They insist it will work. I have talked to three other plumbers and they agreed it is not the correct way to do it. It is the least expensive way to do it. It would also increase my electric bill and make the water heater work much harder. And also only give me a 60-gallon capacity, not 80 gallons. All the plumbers I talked to said the only way to accomplish this would be a 50-gallon water heater with a booster pump which cost APX $350 on top of the 50-gallon water heater.

THIS IS AN AWFUL COMPANY. We have had a contract with AHS for several years, just called spoke with someone at the office to get a ceiling fan repaired. Someone came and after taking it apart, we were informed that we had no coverage. I spoke with service, asked why at the time I spoke with rep that it wasn't told, no answer except that I was lying. Then asked to speak to a manager or supervisor, and told by a Shanon, very rudely, no one else there but her.
After calling back several times I asked if I paid for the difference for the past 3 months since my contract renewed to add this feature, no. That said, would rather I cancel my coverage. Collecting over 800 per year for several years, very bad company policies, and out of 10 people I spoke with, perhaps 1 was worth it. I will NEVER suggest to anyone to used this co., maybe because they were first, they think they don't need to give any service anymore. Wait on phone always 45 min at least, and then hung up on. We found an excellent rated #1 co. now. Good luck to any who uses this co., suggest you do some research.

Occasionally, when closing the washer, it wouldn't work and so, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online and it was simple and quick. You just pick what it was, what you needed and it was fine. We were in North Carolina and we had Hurricane Florence headed that way. I was thinking that I was gonna have a washer full of wet clothes and there were other critical things but the very next morning, the repairman called and asked if he could come out that morning. It was a Maytag washer and he asked me its age which was 11 years old. So he knew the options of what was wrong. He came out and fixed it the very next morning. He was very polite, knowledgeable and professional. Since then, the washer been working fine.

The garbage disposal was not functioning. We knew that it was covered with American Home Shield so we made a call. The plumbing company was very responsive and they sent a text message right away, saying that they would have one of their representatives call to set up the service call. They came out and said it was repaired the first time, but it wasn't. They had to come out three times to make it work right and replace the garbage disposal. It ended up being resolved at that time.
However, the contractors' times were really strange and not accommodating for people that work. They would say they could be there between 7AM and noon. My wife and I would both be leaving the house to go to work at 6AM so getting our times coordinated was kind of a challenge. But overall, they did good work, were professional and courteous. We turn the switch on, the garbage disposal works, so that's all good. We're happy. It was a positive experience overall.

The condenser outside the house wasn’t keeping up with the house because it was too old. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was a little frustrating because I kept getting people from overseas. They kept transferring from one rep to the other rep and I had to retell my story. Then, my Realtor gave me the number to somebody here in town and that worked fine. But a lot of times, if I was at work, AHS customer service reps would email me and they were pretty good at getting back to me.
The first contractor that was sent out was no good and they would never answer their phones. They came to the house three or four times saying that they had fixed the issue. The refrigerant was leaking and the guy went to fill up the refrigerant and fix the leak, but the unit was so old that it wasn’t keeping up. So then he went again, and he said, “Well, there is no fan in the living room,” when there was a fan in the living room. Then he said it was the curtain and that I got to move them so that the vents are working properly. I had to have AHS send a different contractor because they couldn’t get it fixed. The second contractor was pretty good and they replaced the condenser outside the house. It was working fine after that. I would recommend AHS. It's a good investment.

American Home Shield is a good company and I’m glad we are part of it. My husband submitted our claim for an AC issue and he said it was a smooth process. Our AC would come on for a little bit and then it would just stop. Then all of a sudden, it didn’t come back on anymore so it wasn’t doing anything. The guy who came out and fixed it said it was stopped up and so he unclogged it and it’s been running good ever since. Also, the guy came in a timely manner and was quick to get the job done. He was very friendly, too.

One thing that aggravated me, though, was I had to wait a whole week because American Home Shield wanted to order a toilet and they had one that was just as comparable, but they said no. Also, it would be nice if American Home Shield would follow-up to see if you had the service.

I’ve been dealing with American Home Shield for a while and they’ve always treated me fairly. The water closet for my toilet was leaking and I filed a claim online. The site's navigation was good, but the first plumber AHS sent out had an attitude and I will never do business with that company again. I knew what the problem was, tried to explain it to the contractor, and he just kept telling me that the floor was warped and there was a crack in the tile, so there was a crack in the floor, but it was just the tile that was cracked. He said it wasn’t covered, that AHS wouldn’t allow him to do anything because he can’t do anything if the floor is cracked. AHS sent out another plumber to look at it and he listened. He was professional, did what a plumber was supposed to do and made the necessary repairs.

The dishwasher was leaking and it also had a nasty odor to it like it was retaining water inside. Aside from that, the soap holder was also old and bad. It wasn't holding the soap like it should be so it created a whole big mess. American Home Shield's online process for claims submission seems easy. I submitted the claim online and then a representative called me the next day. After that, Exclusive Appliance took care of everything that needed to be taken care of. They also explained every step of the process and went above and beyond. The dishwasher seems to be working fine now.
I also called about the refrigerator within the same claim. The refrigerator was also leaking and on the first time that the technician came out, he temporarily fixed it. But it started leaking again so the next time that he came out, and he had to come back out for the dishwasher anyway, I alerted him to that. He resolved that issue. The only thing that he was unable to resolve was my stove issue. But he said it was an electrical issue so I needed to call for an electrician. I couldn’t get the burners in my stove to work in order to cook my food. Able Appliances has been to my home several times so I know the technicians and I trust them in my home with me. They wrote up the claim and said that they would get back with me once they find out what American Home Shield was gonna do, because he said the burners and some of the fixtures or screws in the stove needed to be replaced. I waited about a week and called Able Appliance back. I asked them what was going on with it and if they had heard anything. They said no, but they gave me a number to call American Home Shield. So I called and AHS said that they were reviewing it and trying to see if they could get the parts to get it to Able Appliance. They told me to give them a call in another week.
So I waited another week and gave them a call. They determined that they couldn’t get the parts for it and sent me an e-mail with the link to get a new range. I was able to select from the approved ones and AHS wanted to go with the company to get it ‘cause it's covered under the original warranty. So, Able Appliance didn’t come back out to install it. The new company that I got the range from did. I called in between times when they were doing that because I had already been out of my range for three weeks so I was ready to cook at my house.
I've been with American Home Shield for about 10 and a half years and I like them. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I've submitted claims online a lot of times but since I have multiples and it's difficult to do that online, I just tend to call. That way, they could bank them all together. However, you need to be able to be on hold for about 45 minutes to an hour and talk with somebody. Then, they would take care of you. AHS should act the fastest so they could get help with the service. They are growing so it’s time to add more staff to help facilitate some of the calls and the concerns from the customers. Nevertheless, American Home Shield is an excellent company and Able Appliance is a good and reliable one.

I had to play go-between and get them communicating. But in AHS's defense, my assigned repair guy had a communication issue. So, I can't put all the faults on AHS. The repair guy wasn’t good about letting people know what was going on and he seemed a little slow. American Home Shield usually sends very good people and I never had a bad experience with them. But this last time, they sent someone who added some Freon to my AC and said that was the problem. But nothing happened. There was still no air coming out, no cold or hot. I called the same guy back but he said that was all I was gonna get. So I called American Home Shield and requested for a second visit. I asked them not to send this person because I had paid him $100 and yet, he just walked away and did nothing. The $100 was the deductible in addition to extra fees that he asked for for stuff that American Home Shield wouldn't cover. American Home Shield said I might have to pay another $100 and I said, “Fine, but don’t send me this guy again.” The representative said that they would not pick or send the contractor to me again.
I was surprised that an hour after I hung up, I found the same guy calling me saying that American Home Shield had called him to fix the problem. And he said he would come right then. I asked him what he meant and he said that he was right next to my house. When I told him that I wasn't at the house, he said, “So you want me to come or no? You want me to fix it or no?” Was I supposed to throw up everything I was doing and go home? But that was what he wanted and I ended up going home.
The next day, I still had the same problem. The fan worked on and off, and every time I told him there was a problem in the unit, he would say, “When I come, it works.” I told him that I couldn't tell him how to diagnose the problem. That is part of what he does. I'm a physician and when a patient comes to me telling me he has certain symptoms on and off, I don't tell him to go home because he doesn't have his symptoms at the moment. But he went home and I decided to suck it up. It was too late anyway. The summer was over. He took my money and didn't do what he was supposed to do, either because he didn't know how to or because he thought it was the end of the season and it was a chance for him to do nothing and go.
American Home Shield didn't do anything about it either. They had promised me that they were gonna send someone else and especially since I agreed to pay the $100 again, they should have kept what we talked about. They should have followed up as well. The upper floor was intolerable and when the temperature was high, the kids and I would go into the basement. We were even sleeping in the basement. If this would be the case, why am I paying for insurance then? My concern now is that next year, I would have the same problem. I would call Home Shield and they would say that since it's an old problem, they might not cover it. On the other hand, I've been with American Home Shield for some time and my last experience was completely different than any other times. Before that experience, I used to recommend the company to everyone.

I was then given a confirmation number. Shortly later that day, I was given a phone number of the representative that would be showing up to do the inspection. It took two days for the contractor to come out. He was very professional. He gave me an inspection, told me that there were some things that fell onto my side that I was going to have to cover, and explained that. Plus, he put a very good band-aid on the AC and was able to get it working. I didn't pay him directly and I waited for AHS to state what I owed. They gave me a printout copy of what would be on them to pay and what be on me.
It took about a month to order the parts and by then, our AC was starting to fail again, so it was perfect timing. He gave me a call to schedule up an appointment for the install. AHS also followed up to make sure that I had already spoken with the contractor and set the appointment up. The contractors came in and did the install. They were very clean and professional. They did excellently. Once the work was done, American Home Shield called up to make sure I was satisfied and that everything was working. I have an indoor swimming pool so I have a heater and a pump room. I was getting ready to go to the hospital so I wanted to close up and lock everything. I opened the door to make sure the light was off and I saw water on the cement. I went over to the heater and I saw that it was leaking around. I turned off the heater, so that meant the pool was still going on twice a day for filtering but the pool was cold. I had all new pipes before I joined American Home Shield. I had it put in there because the heater has a different type of pool pipe and the person who lived there before didn’t put heat-resistant pipes and they were bending and leaking. I spent $200 just on the pipes and then the guy charged me labor.
Stanley Steven Company came over and he said that everything was done right but a lot of times when you're turning something piped, it needs to be turned one more time and from the machine. The heater coming off and on, vibrated and it came unloose and it was leaking. So, he called me out there and told me I had two leaks on the filter. It was a closed one and all the sealants were from the factory. The guy said he couldn’t do anything about it and they were going to have to get me a new filter. He took some measurements to make sure it would fit into that room and the girl back at the office was working on it. American Home Shield was very reassuring trying to find somebody to do the pool. We had an appliance issue back in August and it was handled wonderfully. Motor City Appliance Service was great. That experience was handled quickly and efficiently. They fixed everything and they were very professional. Our refrigerator's control board was not working so our refrigerator was freezing food and then thawing. And then, we also had them look at our washing machine because that wasn’t working either. We paid our deductible and they fixed everything within a few days. There was still some leaking from the washing machine and they answered my questions and told me what to look for to fix that. It was a really good experience.
Then our well pump broke almost two weeks ago and right now, we're trying to get somebody to respond to us. American Home Shield sent two well people out. One didn’t deal with our type of well. The second one misdiagnosed the issue and told us we needed to connect to city water, which isn't even available in our area. So after four days without water, they finally authorized us to have an outside well person come take a look at the problem. We just had to get authorized. He had to call in with the diagnosis before we could get authorized for reimbursement. When he called in with the diagnosis, they put words in his mouth and said, “Nope. That’s not something that is covered.” At this point, we're just hanging.
We had to pay to get our well fixed because we had no water and we had to function, but we can't get authorization to call back. AHS said that the well guy said that it was in a power surge, which wasn’t the issue. The well had become disconnected from the pipe and the motor burned itself out, which should be covered based on the contract. I finally reached out to someone yesterday that was going to look into it from the call center. However, the authorization department has been extremely rude. They kept getting our calls disconnected. Two different times, my husband got to the point where he asked her supervisor, left a message, and they said they had 24 to 48 hours to get back to us. Both times however, we got no response. We had to pay $3,000 out of pocket to have our well pump fixed and pay our deductible to have two plumbers come out and not even diagnose the issue.
I raved about AHS to my friend based on the experience we had with our appliances. She was going to sign up, and then I told her last night what we were going through with our well pump and she said, “Wow. I guess I'm not gonna sign up. I don’t wanna deal with that.” To think that you're covered under a warranty and then have something go wrong and not be able to even talk to somebody and find out why your claim is denied, just get very rude, abrupt answers and then no response.

In past 6 months I had multiple occasions where I ended up paying extra money to replace them.
Last week my rental property water heater broke down and we have to replace them and they ask me that I have to about half of the cost to what they paid to replace it. About an year ago I had external faucet leaking outside the home and their explanation was since it is outside the home (though connected to my home) that's what the contract says it will not cover. I am fed up with them and will not give them any more referrals and will switch my three properties to someone else with better customer service who can return your calls and be reasonable when replace an appliance.

We had a three-year-old LG dishwasher, which wasn’t that old but we had different things replaced on it before. This time, it was a usual problem where when the dishwashing people would come out and fix it, they pushed it back into where it was and the little clear plastic hosing was always getting pinched. After a while, the hosing cracked and every time we turned the dishwasher on, it leaked up underneath the floor and now, I have the most colorful linoleum kitchen floor.
We called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. But, the schedule for the contractors to come out correlated with a holiday and folks in South Texas do not work on holidays, no matter what so we had to wait till the holiday was gone. Also, if it’s a really bad weather, the contractors don’t like coming out in it because most of them don’t know how to drive good in this weather.
It took about five or six days for the techs to come out. AHS told us that if we don’t hear from the person that we’ve been assigned within so many business hours, we could give them a call. Unfortunately, we were given contractors who were using their cellphone as their business number and depending on what they were doing at the time, they might answer or they might not. We were playing a lot of phone tag back and forth so it took a while for them to get back. But everything is doing fine because AHS wrote the dishwasher off and said it wasn’t worth repairing so they replaced it. My husband and I sat down and went over the pros and cons of the dishwashers that were offered to replace our old one with. We chose one and it had been working fabulously.
Most of the repairs are good and the second company that came was great but the first one was not. Also, when contractors finally arrive, I ask them for their ID. I’ve had a lot of them leave ‘cause they didn’t have IDs. Most of them are also smart enough but I have to remind them to wipe their feet before they come into the house because depending on where they’ve been before they get to my house, if their shoes are super muddy, they don’t clean that. Nevertheless, having a home warranty is a lot better than other people who don’t when they go broke because they didn’t think to get one. If someone needs a home warranty, they should not waste time with other companies and go with American Home Shield because they’ve always been prompt.

American Home Shield coverage has always been good. We've had them for 17 years and we're super pleased. We've got three houses and we have them for all three houses. One time, our faucet leaked underneath the sink itself and it needed to be replaced, and my experience with their claims process went very well. Usually, the contractor that they send out performs very well and they finish within two to three days tops. We've had them enough that I know which contractors I want and which ones I don't want. So, I usually have a request if it's someone we've used.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator. I called them, but I was on hold for 45 minutes before I finally got somebody. Then the tech came out and fixed a part that had gone out. But after that, the ref started making a noise after it kicked on and it had never made that noise before. So, I called the tech out again and the guy came out, but he said that the noise was not due to anything that they changed and it must be something to do with our water supply. So, the noise is still going on and it drives my wife crazy. But the refrigerator repair company didn’t admit to doing something that caused the noise, so i have to live with it.
Recently, though, I had a very good experience when I filed a claim online with AHS for my air conditioner. That process was quick and very easy. It was much easier than calling since most of the time, I couldn’t get anybody on the phone easily and it took too long. The contractor came out quickly and on time and the aircon guy was really good. After they had done something, they had to come back to check one thing, but everything has been fine since the repair. The contractor was fast and efficient.

We had an air conditioner issue once and American Home Shield had somebody out here within 36 hours or so. But the contractor didn’t call me after I did that claim online. I was thinking about waiting for the call and I'm glad I didn’t wait. Once I contacted them, that work was fine and the workers were great. But now that I have established service providers, I would like to be able to use them and then have them be reimbursed by American Home Shield in the future. That way I would know the providers a little better. We live in Tampa and it seems like the providers are always coming from Orlando or further away. But I don’t think that's something American Home Shield would ever do. Still, American Home Shield has been good and we like them.

They put in a service call and they called me and told me the service company that they were gonna use and that someone is gonna contact me. And that was what happened. The contractor came out the next day. I needed a new motor so he came in and he fixed it. The contractor was really professional, very nice and focused. I put a claim online with them when our AC wasn't blowing cold air. They responded quickly. They said that it was in the process and all of a sudden, I got a text saying that someone from the repair place was gonna call, and they did call within 15 minutes. I made a schedule with the contractor and two days later, the tech was able to come out. We have two air conditioners in our house - one for the bottom and another one for the top, which is the one that was out. Everything was fine with the contractor. They said that the AC was little on Freon. They filled it up with Freon, put dye in it, and then they would see how long that goes because they said it was probably leaking somewhere. So, it's just a temporary fix.
I know that eventually, there's gonna be something wrong with the AC because it is leaking. They couldn't say where it's leaking until they put this dye in it. So, we have to wait and see where it is. The tech said that if the Freon comes out and it blows hot again, then I need to call, and then they would come out. They would then look where it's leaking and they would go from there, but that would be a second claim. At this stage, I know it's probably somewhere down the line. As long as I keep AHS, then I'll be covered under the claim. What AHS has done is not probably out of the ordinary. I think that’s what any place would do, because how can they replace something without knowing where it's leaking? Other than that, I've had other repairs with AHS too and everything has worked great.

First, the air conditioning part of our unit had an issue and then after I turned the heat on, the heat part would only run on auxiliary heat. Borum Electrical came and they wanted to take all of the Freon out and then put it back in. American Home Shield didn't agree with that. West End Mechanical came the next day and I finally got a second opinion. The technician came last Thursday, and he did not put in the diagnostic report by Friday like he should have. I tried calling him several times Monday and AHS tried calling him Monday. I didn't get his report until Monday, so I wasn't happy that he was so slow.
Anyway, he thinks it's an airflow problem, and it is the ductwork, which is not large enough. It's got six or seven inches now, but it should be 14 inches. He said the two ton unit is too big, so it's not getting enough air flow in or out. Yesterday, I was told by AHS that it wouldn't be covered because it was ductwork and I don't agree with that, so I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back.

I really liked the guy they sent out the first time I had to have a plumber and they let me have him come back again. I've used Rick's Plumbing multiple times. AHS allowed the continuity of the people doing the work and didn't just say, "This is who you have to have." The appliance guy from Sears was phenomenal, too. When I went online, AHS put the work orders issued. Their contractors call right away and give a heads up. Their contractor was very good and was on time.
Another time, the AC system in one house kept getting broken one summer. AHS's contractors fixed it really quickly. That time, I didn't need to pay for the $75 fee because the whole unit had to be working efficiently after they left. So when another problem happened, I called for a work order again. Their contractors came back and fixed the problem for free. Though the plumber service in my area has a longer waiting time, I still find that AHS's service has been very good. Thus far, I've recommended them to my friend who bought a new home.

We had a plumbing issue and Niebuhr Plumbing, the contractor that was sent by American Home Shield, was terrific. The plumbing issue was resolved however, the subcontractor for finishing the drywall has yet to show up, and that’s been four weeks. I submitted my claim online because if you want one complaint, even though they suggest you call them if there’s a question with the contractor or an issue with the contractor, you can wait anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half to speak to somebody. That issue has gone on for three years, and that’s why we will not be renewing.
American Home Shield's service is great. It’s just that when you need a decision to be made, it’s not in the automated system. You’ll first get through to somebody in a half an hour to 40 minutes, and they will put you right back in the queue, and it’ll be another half hour 40 minutes before you can talk to the next person. There are times when you just don’t have that much time because you have appointments or things to do. Still, once I get through to them, the interaction with their representatives have been very good.
I wasted a half an hour one-time, and about 40 minutes the other time to get through to somebody, and I still was not able to. So that was time wasted. You sit there listening to their elevator music on the phone and that is time you could be doing something else. It’s not productive time. Also, the follow-up is now non-existent unless you go online. And they close an issue without it being closed, and that’s not good. I’ve been with them for some time, and we’re going to a different warranty company, hoping they’re better than American Home Shield.
Good morning Mr. Miller,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have the plumbing issue repaired through your American Home Shield warranty. Also, I understand that your experience to speak with a customer service representative has been less than satisfactory due to the hold times. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I’ve been happy with American Home Shield. They recently sent Air Doctor out for an AC issue that we had. They had to replace a small part that they found was broken. Submitting claims with AHS has been great. I usually tell them who I want to use because I’ve had bad experiences with contractors. So now, I know who I want. I call them in advance, and I ask them if they’re available. And then, I go through American Home Shield. I tell them, “This is who I’d like to use.” A lot of times, they give me people that can’t come out for days and I know that that’s not the way it’s supposed to work, but that is what happens. With an air conditioning issue in Florida, we can’t wait two or three days, so I usually get somebody that I know, and they come out either the same day or the day after. So it’s been working.
Everybody that I’ve had in my house has been acceptable. The guy who fixed my dishwasher and dryer was awesome. I liked the time that it took to find the problem and fix it. He went above and beyond both with my dryer and my dishwasher repair. He fixes a lot of different appliances, so if he’s available, I call him first, and then I call American Home Shield. AHS should get more contractors onboard, so that if one’s not available, somebody else could come out. Also, it’s kind of a big deal once you go with somebody, and then you have to switch. When my air conditioner broke and I needed somebody, they sent me somebody, but they couldn’t get out for three days. I had to wait on the phone for an hour for them to switch it and then, again, go through the process. That was a pain. Now, I'm calling people that I know will do it, so I’m okay. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

My furnace went out on one of the coldest days of the year last year. I submitted a claim to AHS and they were wonderful. The contractors were out in no time and were super professional. They cleaned up after themselves. They explained to me everything that was happening. However, when I submitted a claim on a plumbing issue recently, it was a huge disappointment.
My bathroom sink was not draining. It was being super slow. And the water coming out of the faucet was coming out exceedingly slow. I've never had it do that. It ended up stopping that we couldn’t get any water out of it. When I submitted the claim, it said I should receive a call within 24 hours but I didn't. I submitted my claim on a Sunday, so I knew it would take even longer. So, I figured I'd wait until Tuesday. Still, had not received a call by Tuesday. I called them on Wednesday and left a message. They didn't return my call. I called them on Friday and left a message. They returned my phone call and we set up an appointment for the following week. They were no show and no call. I called and said the person who was at my house couldn't stay much longer. The rep said, "I'm sorry. The plumber had to go home for the day." I would have appreciated a phone call. And so, we had to set a second appointment.
My son was here when the contractors came. The contractors said it was just clogged on the sink. They cleaned out the little cap on the sink and the faucet and took no time. They said the faucet was not dripping so that has not been fixed yet. My son said they were there no more than 15 minutes. Told the contractor that the dishwasher was leaking, but we thought we had to do a second claim for that. But he said he'd take a look. He looked under the dishwasher, and he said he could fix it. He fixed it and it is no longer leaking. And that was a little bit positive. I'd recommend AHS to everyone.

I had a problem with my pool filter and pool pump. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, it was super easy. I did it online this time. Although I usually do it on the phone, I've had a hard time getting through 'cause of the long hold time. It could take more than 20 minutes to get hold of a rep. But if you do it online, no difficulties. Although, if you have a follow-up question, it's something you have to call them back and I dread calling them cause of the hold time. But the reps at AHS give you the phone number of the contractor and so you can call if they don't call you. And you just set up an appointment and they come out. You do the consult, and they tell you what they need to fix.
So far, I liked both the companies that they sent out. I had good experiences with them. Although, when I submitted a claim for the pool pump and filter, I waited four days and the contractor didn't call me. So, I called them because it was summertime, and my pool was broken. I'm paying for the heat cost and I needed it fixed. In closing, the person AHS sent out has done an awesome job and the quality of the repair is excellent. Moreso, I appreciate the ability to select from more than one company. Previously when I first called for pool help, they didn't have very many contractors. But when I had the pool problem this year, apart from just one company that wasn't very good, they sent me two that were good. I've already recommended AHS to people.

But I had plumbing people a couple of weeks back and the quality of those people was not up to par. In fact, the service and the quality of people have gone downhill lately. The time to get the vendors to return a call to make an appointment has been terrible as well. It took about four days to get the plumbing people to make an appointment then it took them another three days to get out here. It was all simple stuff too. There was nothing exotic. The air conditioning contractor took about five days to come out as well. My air conditioner had stopped blowing cold air and very disappointedly, they came two or three times. One time, it was this then it would be that. They would be here in two minutes and they would run out rather than going through some diagnostics and checking.

My furnace stopped working but I didn’t realize it until it was summertime. It was a new house so I wasn’t familiar with everything. I gave American Home Shield a call, somebody came out and he discovered something else from what I initially reported. So, he rescheduled to get it done. He had to red tag my furnace after he came on site the first time. The technician came back again and fixed that problem. When he left, I noticed that the furnace is just blowing room temperature air. It was never fixed. They fixed the problem that was never really a problem. Within 24 hours, I called AHS back and they sent somebody else out. It turned out that the thermostat was broken the whole time and it was never checked. The thermostat showed as working but when you would make changes on it, nothing would happen.
AHS charged me for two service calls because they thought it was two separate issues. I told them that I didn’t report two separate issues. The technician just found a different issue and never really fixed the initial problem. AHS took away the service charge for the second one although they did give me a tough time. It was not easy. I was on hold for 30 minutes, the rep transferred me and then, I had to explain the issue all over again. The rep said that they can pull my recordings of the call to verify it. They were trying to bait me like I was lying about something. I told them to go ahead and do that and they said they'd call me back in an hour and they never did for a week. So, I called them back and the guy immediately said that they'll credit my 125 back. It was a three-minute phone call and that experience was great.
Other than technicians not fixing the initial issue, the people were great and very professional. I just wish that they fixed the problem the first time. It took three separate times for them to come to my house. I was there with them in the garage all three times because it’s a new house and I try to learn things about the house so that I could potentially fix them myself. In the end, I was charged what I thought I would be charged and the service worked the way I thought. It just took a little longer and I had to make a phone call to be charged with the correct amount which was typical these days.

Our electricity wasn’t working in one side of the house. So, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. We didn’t have that issue the day before. It just started all of a sudden. The electrician from BW Electric came out, and he was able to diagnose the issue fairly quickly. We just had a loose wire in our breaker box that must have gotten knocked loose somehow at some point. He was able to tighten it up, and we’ve been good since.
I like submitting my claims online, and I typically have an immediate response from American Home Shield. However, it seems to be a hit or miss with the vendors. Sometimes I get really great vendors like that electrician who found the issue, but the original air conditioning place that AHS sent out seemed to just wanna get all the money they could out of AHS even if I didn’t need things. I felt like I was kind of having to push them to fix my actual issue, and I called in to AHS and had to escalate it. I spoke with someone in the approval department and I was informed that I could have a different contractor come out for a second opinion.
We finally got a second contractor out. My air conditioning unit’s too small. They diagnosed the issue and were gone within one visit versus the other vendor. They had come out four times, and their front office was completely rude and unprofessional, and it got to the point where I was like, “Come on, guys. I just want air conditioning.” But AHS was great about it. The lady I spoke with in the approvals department was awesome. She spoke through the whole process with me, listened to my concerns, and told me that I could have another vendor come out, which was awesome because I did not want that original vendor back out. I had been going back and forth with that vendor for about a month and a half.
American Home Shield's social media team is awesome. I originally seemed to have issues with that other vendor, and I was getting kind of mixed messaging when I called in. I had to wait online for probably 30 minutes or more to talk with someone, and I was so slammed at work. A new ticket got written and I received a call that a service person would be out for my refrigerator and a second one for the Microwave.
The one for the Microwave showed up on the day he was supposed to and told me the Magnatron was bad and a few other parts, a few days later a get a call from a second service person stating they were stopping by to look at my Microwave. I informed him that the parts were not in yet and he told me he was out to diagnose the microwave. I was at work when I received this call and had to get my 15 yr old son to let a neighbor in since an adult had to be there for them to look at my appliance. The second service person could not find anything wrong with the microwave. Since then it will work okay sometimes and other times it will make loud noises and spark. My kids refuse to use it and I refuse to pay ANOTHER $75.00 to have someone look at it.
Back to the refrigerator. The service person Showed up (another day off work) and was able to fix the water leaking from the freezer to the refrigerator. He also ordered a gasket for the fridge door. Long story short, AHS approved of the Gasket but it was on back order, once it was available it would be mailed to me and I should call Sears to make a service appt. I think nothing of it till I receive an email in early September stating I needed to return extra parts. I called and let them know I had no parts delivered, I called around with several departments in Sears (almost an hour).
Then, I was transferred to AHS, after almost 2 more hours on and off hold I was told that their department would look in-house and if they were not able to order the parts they will replace the fridge. A week few days later I followed up (another hour on hold and was hung up on) and was told I should receive a call or an email in 24 hours. (Personal life happens and I forget to follow up about the fridge.)
Fridge completely dies October 7th. I call AHS and they sent someone out the next day (a holiday, I was very HAPPY about this). The service man told me the fridge is bad because it was constantly running since the gasket (the one that was SUPPOSED to be replaced in JULY and then again in September) was never replaced. I called AHS that evening (20-25 min on hold) and was told they would make a decision within 48 hours, at this time I told them I still had an open case from July, I could barely understand the gentleman I was speaking with but it sounded like they were going to replace my fridge and someone would call by Wednesday. By this time I have lost everything in the refrigerator and Freezer since I only have one in my home. I called on Wednesday afternoon (20 min hold and then transferred to someone else and another 35 min hold) and was told they approved and then closed my case from Oct 7th.
I was quite upset to find this out, again I could barely understand the person on the phone. Upon more conversation I found out the order from July was approved and they transferred me to the Appliance department. I was on hold almost an hour before speaking with another woman and she sent me an email that I was to reply to saying that I was OK with the order. I immediately replied to the order the way that was listed in the email. (It was through Sears and had I bought the fridge myself I would have had it Friday Oct 12).
I called back on Friday Oct 12th. Complained. I wanted to speak to a supervisor and was reimbursed the second service fee I was charged then transferred to the orders department only to find out my refrigerator had not been ordered yet and they are behind on their emails. They typically take 2 to 3 days OR MORE. The nice lady on the phone ordered my Fridge for me (or said she did). I call back on Monday to make sure I will be getting my fridge since it is a Kenmore (guess what happened that morning... Sears says they are going bankrupt). I was reassured that my Fridge would be delivered but it would be an additional 10-14 BUSINESS DAYS before I receive a call for someone to deliver.
Since I have teenage kids I went out and purchased a mini fridge to get me through so I could at least have SOME basics. I find this absolutely ridiculous! To top it off, I receive a call last night, the gentleman on the phone starts reassure me that a Refrigerator will be ordered for me and starts asking me questions about my refrigerator. Finally I ask the guy if my refrigerator had been ordered or not yet? I told him that it was supposed to have been ordered on October 12th. He told me he was just helping that department get caught up and it was an email that was still in the queue. He would check and make sure it was delivered and then delete it from the system. I never heard back either way about it. I am now wondering why I have paid over 2,000 in the last 3 years for this service and have to wait more than a month to get a 600 refrigerator? I can only imagine how long a wait for a furnace or hot water heater would be.

We received our warranty as part of a home purchase. This was our first house and we appreciated it as this is not a new home, it was a well taken care of home, but not brand new. The previous owner was actually a sub-contractor primarily in trim, maintenance and roofing. He rebuilt the porches front and back, the roof was new, all appliances in the house were new including the heater and water heater and everything in the kitchen.
We love the house and it has a great location for us as well. No issues we almost did not use the warranty at all the first year until almost the end. I was actually reviewing home warranty companies for the next year when our issue happened. In the very late summer we started having AC issues right during the middle of me reviewing it. I should stay with the company we currently had or go to another. The prices on the other seemed cheaper a little etcetera. Then we started having AC issues.
Contacted AHS and they sent someone out to service the unit. I thought that was OK. It just needed a Freon refill or something. The AC technician said it was an older unit and he had to talk to his supervisor to see what the prognosis would be. After and as he went to his truck to do so I was starting to freak out because we did not have the spare money to cover a substantial AC repair. He came back and said he could not really do anything but talk to American Home Shield and get back to me.
So me and my wife are kind of about to lose it after he leaves. We live in Georgia and it is not cool especially in late summer. Twenty minutes later American Home Shield called me and I saw the caller ID. I was like, "Wow. If they called that quick it is to deny the claim." I was wrong completely. They said it would be replaced completely. I was completely blown away. We did have to deal with no AC for a week but as soon as the ordered unit arrived they were out next day and installed it along with rebuilding the heat stack on the heater because the new unit had to have a wider one.
I renewed directly thereafter so basically you can say I count a whole new 4 ton AC through AHS for $75.00 which is what it costs for the initial service call. I personally would not believe this as I read it but I can tell you it is 100 percent true. We live in NW GA 30 minutes from Atlanta and I will personally be with AHS for many years to come if not a lifetime customer because of it and it is completely true!

In June my A/C went out, I called AHS and after three days they couldn't find a contractor to come out. I asked if I could use my own and they gave me outside authorization. The gentleman came out diagnosed the problem, called AHS and gave them the info... They told him they would pay $1110 and he agreed and fixed my unit. It is working perfectly...however AHS still has not paid him. I think this is a disgrace as he was kind enough to work with me and accept that AHS would pay him or me and I would give him the check. However neither of us has received a thing... It is no wonder so many companies refused to come out when they heard I had AHS. I don't understand how they can get away with this. Everything they asked for has been submitted and resubmitted. Where is the check?

The response was pretty quick when I submitted a claim online to AHS. The issue was there were some pipe leaks in the gas. The contractor came out in a day and it was good. They came prepared, they had all their tools and did all the stuff they needed to do. They were able to fix everything and everything's been good since the repair. I had a lot of work orders that got done with AHS as well.

We usually ended up with AHS' automated line when we called. But they did well whenever we submitted claims and we had a seamless experience. Contractors got a hold of us pretty quickly. Their repairs were fine. But I did claims often because AHS would try to fix things that shouldn’t have been fixed like a microwave. I told them I would take the money and it took a lot to push them. They then gave me $350 for a microwave fix that they would have done. And even the place that came out, they fixed the microwave once but it broke again. They guy said he was going to have to come out a third time to be able to even get me a new microwave. he said I spent too much money which I agreed with.
The only thing was AHS fixed the very minimal. They had a ridiculous price too that kept going up and up. I would pay ahead of time, all at once. I would look at the whole month and it was like $600. But all of a sudden, I was over $1,000. Someone suggested HSA to me and I contacted them. It was totally different. There was a lot more online competitive pricing. I changed to HSA because of the price, but I found out that HSA was bought by AHS.

We have a well and it stopped. We had no water whatsoever, so I was freaking out thinking that the well went dry. We just moved in the house a little over a year ago, and I've never had a well before so it was the worst nightmare. But AHS sent a contractor and they evaluated it. They took time to do the right thing and checked the well itself, and then the house. Fortunately, it was just the pressure control. It could've been thousands and thousands of dollars. I'm so glad that they were able to figure it out. They knew what they were doing and they were really professional. I was also very happy American Home Shield covered it. I would definitely use them again if I had any issues. When I needed them they've come through.

Our washing machine stopped working and American Home Shield sent Richard’s Appliance out. Richard’s Appliance was awesome. They came when they said they would and they did what they said they were supposed to do. They said that they couldn’t fix the machine because they couldn’t find the part to fix it. So then I was told to purchase another one and send the receipt. I bought another washing machine, and I need to fax them my receipt so AHS can reimburse me. I'm hoping I can call them to get the number to send the receipt to without spending another five days waiting on the line for an indefinite period of time.
Initially, submitting the claim with AHS on the phone was very difficult because I could never get through. It took me five different occasions of calling and waiting on the phone anywhere from 35 minutes to 45 minutes to get through. It was a miserable experience. I got three policies with them because I have three different properties. So, I’m hoping it’s not indicative of the nightmare that I’m gonna have every time something goes wrong because I’m definitely considering changing that. Maybe they’re too big now where they have too many customers, and they can’t service their people in a reasonable amount of time. I don’t know what the deal is, but I didn’t have a washing machine for a long time and that wasn’t okay.

It was an electrical issue. So I contacted AHS again and then they had Sunbelt Electric come out. The guy from there was really, really good. They went ahead and rescheduled it for a Tuesday, which they did this without even asking, and I wasn't happy about that. AHS is great. I had them years ago when I bought my first house. Years later, we switched but ended up canceling and switching back over to AHS. Their website is very user-friendly and it's amazing. You don't have to wait on hold. We filed a claim for the AC and the contractor came out within 12 hours. We live in a very small town and the fact that a local contractor was able to come out made it a lot easier. Otherwise, we would have had to wait for somebody to come out of Las Vegas, which is an hour away. And usually, it takes a lot longer.
The contractor came in and evaluated the AC. He figured out that the problem was the fan and placed a call with AHS to get approval to get it fixed. We're in Nevada and it is still warm in October. We have another AC unit on the other side of the house and we stayed on the other side until the AC got fixed. He called me back once he had the approval and said that he was coming back over to fix it. He was somebody that I personally know. I was okay with him and said to just go to the house and fix it. I didn't even have to be there. I've recommended AHS to my sister-in-law. She has a different home warranty company, which has been a nightmare for her. She's going to be switching over once she gets her repair taken care of.

Our air conditioning went out inexplicably on the last week of summer. Earlier in the year and maybe last year, we had a contractor out to fix the same air conditioning unit so we were concerned about it. We called American Home Shield and a gentleman came over. He said he knew what the issue was and he wanted to replace my condenser fan. It made everything cooler and he left. Later that evening, the ambient temperature outside was in the mid-80s and upstairs it was 94˚. It was 89˚ up there three hours ago so I asked why it wasn't cooling.
I called AHS back and then another guy came out and looked at the air handler in the second level of the house. He said I had another problem and it looked like something had shorted out. He added that since it was an older air conditioning unit, it was 100% understandable. Anytime the air conditioner would kick on, it would also kick on the furnace so it was heating the cool air and shoving it into the house. Even though the air conditioner seemed to be running fine, it wasn’t doing anything. He told me that they were gonna order a part for me and it would be a couple of days but he was gonna unhook my furnace from the thermostat so then it won’t be heating. Two days later, the same guy that was here the first time came back. He installed it and he left. Again, it was 89˚ upstairs. It was not cooling the home.
I called Budget, the contractor, back again and told them that they have been out here three different times and the air conditioning is still not fixed. They said they will send another guy and this was 7 o’clock at night. That evening, a third guy came into the house and said he will just troubleshoot the air conditioning. He also added that something shorted out in the thermostat. He took me up there and showed me exactly what it was doing, why it was shorting out, what I could do to relieve it, the piece that actually shorted out and what I could do about it. It turned out, we have one of those digital Nest thermometers. He asked how long I have had that and I said two years. He told me to call Nest as it should be under warranty. I called Nest and they sent me the new piece. I installed it myself, turned the thermostat back on and everything worked wonderfully.
It took four trips for Budget to properly diagnose what was wrong with my cooling. Had the first guy done his due diligence in troubleshooting, he would know that it was a warranty issue with Nest and that it had nothing to do with American Home Shield who wouldn’t have had all these invoices going back and forth for pieces that probably were not needed. It was a rough last week of summer and AHS was wonderful about it. I have no issues with their product but their subcontractors could be better. I would recommend American Home Shield as I've always had. There has only been a couple of times in my home-owning life that I haven’t had American Home Shield and although there had been years when I haven't used it at all even though I've been paying 700 bucks a month, that's how the model works. In the 20 years of homeownership, I'm in the black.

My AC will not turn on and even if it's on, it emits warm air. I submitted a claim over the phone with AHS and the people who answered the phone were great. Getting the process started was very fast and it took about a week for them to get somebody out here. Then the first contractor they sent out was very good. He found out what the problem was, told me that the AC needs a part replaced, and that it would be a month for the part to come. So, he submitted a report to AHS and I waited for a month.
Then he told me that American Home Shield wanted a second opinion, so I called American Home Shield. After I waited for two weeks, they sent out the second opinion people. They gave the same findings but they didn't tell me what I should expect. Also, they never called me back, so I called them two weeks later. They said that they had to wait for American Home Shield to call them back to see if the replacement of the part would be approved. So, I waited again and when I called them for an update, they said that it was approved and that they would place the order. I waited for another three weeks and since there was still no call from the contractor, I called American Home. I asked them what happened and they told me that the part was out of stock.
A few days ago, I called American Home again and they said that they would check with the repair person. Then the contractor called me back and said that they got the part and they're coming, but it will be on November 14th. Now my claim was submitted early July and it's so hot in Hawaii that I got sick a couple of times because of no aircon.

I had my checking account set up in debit which at that moment was low so, I specifically gave the rep the information for my credit card just for one time. They did a one-time payment on my credit card and they also debited my checking account.
When I found out what happened, I called them and aside from taking a month, they reimbursed me back to my credit card instead of back to my checking account. A week later, they sent me an email stating that my vendor payment was 30 days past due and that the burden of proof was on me to show that I have paid which was poor customer service. It should not be on me but on AHS and they should give me a supervisor and get it resolved. They wanted me to provide the cancelled check as proof of payment to them for the $125. It wasn’t my issue and I left it at that. I was a customer for four years and I was satisfied. But this billing issue caused me to cancel my policy with them.
