I carry the best American Home Shield policy that is offered. When an overhead light went out, I called them and they arranged for this particular company to come out. The proprietor was very personable and professional. He checked what the problem was and he contacted American Home Shield and they said that I have the coverage. I had already prepaid the $75 service fee and he took care of the problem. The professionals that had come to my house in representation of American Home Shield as one of their contractors had not all been at this caliber but this gentleman was top-notch and he surpassed the golden bar of excellence.
I've been with American Home Shield for 14 years and I usually call to file claims. In the earlier years, it was questionable in terms of whoever I was talking to knew that much about even what the policy covers even though it’s spelled right out in front of them. The last few years though, it seemed to be a whole lot better. When I call, I have a copy of my policy in front of me so I know what I’m asking and I wanna make sure that everything is complete on their end.

We’re really happy with American Home Shield because we don’t have to find someone to come for repairs and they have good contractors. When our toilet was running long, the plumber that AHS sent out had to replace a part. The issue had been going on for months before we filed a claim. And our plumbing has been fine since the service. Before that, we had someone from the key place to put new keys in. We usually call in to file a claim and we haven't had any problems. The AHS reps are really helpful and polite. We just give them the information and they'll have someone contact us from another company.

My mother told me that her garage door was not opening for her. I own the house and have the home warranty with American Home Shield on it so I filed the claim. I did it online and the submission was pretty good. Although, it might be useful if they could have a sub-section where whatever I click on, there would be a brief explanation of what the problem is. But other than that, I don't have any complaints about it. Then, American Door Masters came out and fixed it. My mother said they were very efficient and they did a great job. The garage door has been fine since.

I had a problem with my ice maker so I submitted a claim online to AHS. Greenway Home Services came out and it went very smooth. I had a very quick response. It felt like before I could click send, I had a phone call from Greenway to schedule an appointment. The technician came and inspected my ice maker that wasn’t working. And then, he ordered a part. A week later, he came back with the part and replaced it. I’m very pleased with the service with the appliance.

We called in our claims with American Home Shield and they were well-handled. When we got in our part-time residence, there was a leak in the drainage underneath the sink and also very slow drain in the shower. We reported those and they were very well done. We were just in there overnight and we had a plane to catch the next morning. AHS couldn’t get anyone there on the first day that we called. They just simply said, “We cannot dispatch anyone to get there today.” We had to leave so we left the instructions to open the lockbox, get the key and get in but I'm confident that it was done properly. I'm considering renewing the policy when my year is up. I'm very satisfied.

Our pool quit working and started leaking. I went online and filed a claim with AHS which was pretty simple to do. Then a couple of days later, I heard from the people that did the repairs, which was very quick. They let me have the same people that do the normal maintenance on my pool to do the repair and I liked that. They took care of the problem right away so I’m happy with the service and it worked out great. I would recommend American Home Shield.

Our garage door opener wasn’t working, and so we called American Home Shield. Reliable Garage Door came out in less than a week and the person said that the garage door opener itself was fine, but a part was bad and it had to be replaced. He then put an order in. Apparently, our garage door opener is very unusual. He thought it was one of the best he’d ever seen, but it was just one that wasn’t commonly used. So, he had to find parts somewhere else and get on the phone with that company’s technical team to walk through it.
The person who did the work lived in Dayton, Ohio which is two and a half hours from where we live. When he was not able to finish the job, he even stayed in the hotel on his own that night, so he could come over in the morning and finish it. He was trying to be very courteous, and that was very impressive. He went well over and above for a contractor. The garage door opener is working perfectly now. We’ve had American Home Shield for as long as we have the house, and the customer service and the putting in a ticket request are all good, and it works the way you like it to work. I have a lot of younger millennial folks who are with me at work, and a couple of them are buying houses. I have personally recommended them getting American Home Shield because of the experience we have.

When I had an air conditioning problem, the contractor AHS used was very good. They told me that their first available appointment would be in three weeks and when the guys came, they told me that they needed to order parts. I told them that I couldn't wait three weeks to have somebody come and tell me what is wrong with my AC. Though I might be able to find somebody who would come sooner, I gotta use the contractor AHS chose if I'm doing AHS. Still, the contractor were all very good. My issues were solved except for one that wasn't covered which was appropriate. I'm gonna stick with American Home Shield but I suggest that AHS encourages their contractors to try to get somebody out to look at the customer's problem sooner than two or three weeks.

We filed a claim for our refrigerator over the phone and it was good. The service guys sent by American Home Shield were great. They took their time to see what was wrong and they fixed it in a timely manner. Plus they were really clean. They had to come out to see what was wrong, and then they ordered a part. It took two visits and a little over a week ‘cause they had to wait for the part to come in. They even put in an extra part that wasn’t requested so that the issue wouldn’t come back.

Our well pump stopped working. I gave American Home Shield a call and about two days later, the techs came. They were great and very professional. They did a good job, kept me in the loop, and were glad to share information. I learned a lot from them, too. The well has reached the end of its useful life but they were able to extend it for as far as they could. It's time to get a new one now, so the guys are coming out to drill a new well. It's been a very good experience with American Home Shield. I'd use them again.

When the first company came out and took a look at my washer, they put some information in the report and American Home Shield was not going to replace it based on the verbiage. They had a second opinion come out and the second company verified that the information in that first report was not valid. They did a further review and investigation of the washer. Afterwards, they stated that that information was not accurate and because of that, American Home Shield replaced my washer. There was a lot of delay because of the disputing and all of that back and forth, and we had to go to the Laundromat. The washer was replaced after a couple of weeks and we started using it on day one. The unit American Home Shield offered was perfectly fine with me too. I had a great experience with the last company that came out and it was great that American Home Shield was able to replace the washer. I was satisfied with the service so I continued my warranty.

American Home Shield is very easy to work with and they’re affordable. The thing I like most about them is being able to pay monthly and not having to pay yearly. When we purchased our house, we went through whoever our realtor bought for us. I dropped them because I had to pay yearly and $600 a year is just not something I can come up with out of pocket. With AHS, it’s easy to have someone come out and I don’t have to worry that they’re gonna send somebody out that’s not going to know what they’re doing. I also had them before when I had a house in Georgia and I've never had a problem with them. The website is very user-friendly. Right on the front page when you log in, they have the thing where you can click to submit a claim. The drain in our bathtub was recently stopped up and Plumb Genius came out. We submitted the claim on a Sunday and they called us the very next day, and they were out within two days.

This is my 3rd month with AHS and I am already so unhappy with my decision to go with this home warranty company. Had an issue with my central A/C about a month ago and I am STILL dealing with the issue. It’s 90 degrees in Miami, FL and I have been without A/C for the last month now. The company that AHS hired to come out and fix the issue is completely incompetent and have had to come out 3 different times to install a new compressor, then uninstall it because it wasn’t working (I believe it was a used one). Then install a different one, and now possibly uninstall that one because it’s not working either.
I had to pay $300 out of pocket for Freon, $100 for a service fee, and now I’m wondering whether it was even worth it to go through AHS. When I called them and asked if there was a way I could pay to fix the issue and then get reimbursed, they told me it didn’t work like that. So the alternative is to suffer through no A/C for 3 weeks? What’s the point of a home warranty company if they aren’t going to actually fix your problem? So unhappy.

Back on Sept. 7, 2018, I placed a service call through AHS to have my washing machine serviced. The technician arrived two days later to see what the issue was with the machine which took all of, let’s say, 5 minutes. A few days of not hearing from the contracting company because parts had to be ordered that the technician didn’t have, I called them to see what the status of my call was. Found out that the part that was supposed to be ordered was not in stock. Thanks for letting me know with a phone call. SMH.
So, after calling and complaining to AHS about the part not being in stock, yes, I had to call them, they sent out a different contracting company. This technician arrived on Oct. 13, yes over a month since I originally placed the service call. The technician worked on the machine for a good hour or so and he couldn’t fix the issue even with the parts that were ordered and delivered to my house about a week before he arrived. When he couldn’t fix the problem, he proceeded to tell me that more parts will have to be ordered which will take anywhere from 5-7 business days. Now we’re looking at me possibly being without a washing machine for a month and a half.
Now, I’m back on the phone with AHS to voice my disappointment with the time, service and inconvenience I’ve had dealing with this whole situation. I ask the AHS rep what will happen if the technician receive new parts, again, and don’t fix my machine. Here’s the kicker, I was told that AHS will send out “another” contracting company to try and fix it. At this point I’m ready to tell AHS how I really feel about their service, but I held my tongue. My understanding, according to my contract, the $51.00 a month that I pay, and the fact that I’ve been with them for over 10 years, was that If the technician couldn’t fix the appliance AHS would replace it. At this point, I don’t see “that” happening because they’d rather keep sending contractor after contractor to try and fix the problem and to hell with you being inconvenienced in the long run.
I am very, very upset and disappointed in the way AHS has handled this situation and could not correct it. I pay them every month for a service, that I thought, should be rendered. That’s the problem with all of these insurance companies, because AHS is one too, they take your money but when it’s time for them to show up and put up, they let you down. Incredible.
Hello, Darryl. We regret to hear that your service request has not yet been resolved. My review is based on multiple experiences with this service over the past year. They confirm a window of time in their system but then schedule a different window of time with the contractor, creating massive confusion. They seem to have trouble with basic tasks, such as scheduling and confirming times. The quality of professionals they recommend is "C" grade at best. The plumber and oven repair professionals they sent to our house were borderline incompetent and provided wrong and erroneous information. Not worth the price!

I initiated service in 7 July for my refrigerator. It's October and the technician was just here yesterday again and replaced more parts and it still does not work! After numerous service calls and customer service calls with very long waits, phone drops and no callbacks and taking time off of work for the technician I had to get the BBB involved. One vendor that sent out came over 4 times to replace parts one time which was 2 mins and he left. They switched vendors and that company came out yesterday and stated "it's all fixed. Give it 24 hours". The refrigerator is still warm, I only put a bottle of water because I was not going to throw away food anymore.
Good morning Ms. Trovato,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service that has been experienced over the past few months. I would be glad to speak with you and get the refrigerator repaired/replaced to resolve the issue.

I used my dishwasher the night before and the next morning, I saw there was a bunch of water in the room. The Sears tech came the same day I placed the call to American Home Shield. The tech diagnosed the problem and described it as a pump going it. He then ordered a part, which took a week to come. And about a week after that since that was my only available time, he came back and fixed it in about an hour. The tech seems good. He has been here for a couple of things in the past so as soon as I saw that it was him, I knew that we were gonna be okay. Other than that, the first time I submitted a claim online, I wasn't expecting to get a call the same day, and I did, which was impressive.

This was dispatched from American Home Shield home warranty (AHS). The technician arrived at the property without proper tool to perform the job and blame me not understanding the type of pipe was leaking and I should have told him the situation and what he should bring to fix the leak. I am not a professional plumber that's why you were called to the job. Duh. The technician was rushing to leave without doing anything because he didn't bring tools/parts. I asked when will he be coming back to fix the leak and he said his company will call me back to reschedule.
The technician stayed in his van for about 20 mins in front of my house afterwards, thought that was odd but realized that he was making false reports trying to avoid the job and still keep my service fee. Few mins later I received call from AHS saying the technician reported back that the leak was caused by rodent and was not covered by home warranty policy, I need to pay that company $75 to come out without tools and parts, did nothing, and $275 more to do the actual job fixing the leak, this is unacceptable. Actually I had another local plumber came out for an estimate and they said it was a cut caused by previous plumber who put in the pipe accidentally cut the pipe a little bit and after time goes by, the cut expanded and eventually break thru and caused the leak.
AHS called and told me that based on this technician's report, the coverage for this claim is denied and I am still required to pay the $75 for the company to come out to investigate and exterminate (the guy was only here for less than 5 mins, wall was already opened and leak source was exposed for access, he saw the pipe and blame me not telling him the pipe type and said he doesn't have the tool to fix PEX pipes with him anyways). Both the contractor and AHS was unprofessional and unethical to even file false report behind customer's back just to deny coverage and still charge fee for unprofessional contractor to arrive without property tool and parts to perform the job. Horrible experience!!!
Good morning Mr. Lin,
I understand your concerns regarding the service fee that was paid for the plumbing claim that was not completed. U would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the issues resolved.

I had an electrical problem. My neighbor came over and put in the outlet but he didn't do it right. I called AHS and they said they would get me an electrician within 24 to 48 hours. They gave me the name of the electrical company that was supposed to come and I called them. They had to wait until they got the call from American Home Shield and they were out within two days. The gentleman that came out was wonderful and he fixed the problem in two seconds. Before that, I couldn't do anything on my bathroom with the electrical outlet out. But now it is back and up and running. I hardly ever use AHS until I moved to Florida and this is the third call I had to give them.
When my air conditioner went out, they came and fixed that, too. But right before that, I called because my garbage disposal was out. They came in and put in a new one. AHS is great and I have nothing but praises for them. They take care of my problems and the warranty is worth every penny you do because every morsel and everything in your house is covered. Also, being a woman alone and handicapped, I can't do anything. My husband is dead, so it is wonderful to have AHS. I have a peace of mind knowing that if something would happen, they'd be there to help me.

The range wouldn’t turn on and smelled of gas because it was leaking. It took the contractor that American Home Shield sent a little bit to come but he was able to fix the issue though and he mentioned how to shut it off so that gas won’t leak if something like that happens again. We were elated because we were afraid that there would be a fire. AHS was supposed to not charge us because we’ve canceled a claim but they charged us anyway. I had to keep calling them and it took almost three weeks for them to refund that. That process needs to be smoother. Also, some people pay less than we pay and I don’t understand that. We pay $100 and we know people that pay 75. They need to be consistent with their prices across the board. Other than that, people need AHS.

Once I have the same guy come out twice, I want the same person to keep coming out but there’s no place to request that. I recently had another issue and they wanted somebody else to come out.
The contractor was fantastic which is why I wanted to stick with him. He was very clear about the reason he was coming. The first time, he explained everything step-by-step. And then on the second one, I wasn’t able to be here until I texted him and he texted me what was going on. He had to order a piece and then he came back out when I was here and fixed it. He was very clear every step of the way.
I've been really happy with American Home Shield. I’ve never had a pool before so if I hadn’t gotten this, I don’t know what I would’ve done. American Home Shield was very easy to deal with the moment I put in the request. I got a text that said the contractor would be contacting me within 24 hours. So, I knew I would be contacted and who was gonna contact me. I could look them up and see their reviews online. I was moving, starting a job, and my kids are starting a new school. American Home Shield came out to look at my dishwasher but the dishwasher is still not running properly. The tray where the dishes are keep dropping and I’m unable to continue to put dishes in there. It probably wasn’t the technician’s fault because he did some other things with the dishwasher. That was completed and that was fine. He was very good too. In fact, I have no complaints about any of the technicians that are coming out now. But in order to wash dishes, the tray has to be in place. I called American Home Shield around 8 o’clock but I got a recording that they’re in Central timeslot. I’m Eastern so I’m going to call them again. I normally submit claims over the phone and when you have to stay on the phone for 30 minutes, waiting for someone to pick up gets to be a little annoying. But once you get the opportunity to talk with the representatives, they're very professional.
Other than that, the only concern that I have is that they give us such a short period of time for sending the money back to American Home Shield. I know that the technicians no longer receive the $75 that is required. But with regards to my father, three technicians have already been out there for his Frigidaire. American Home Shield only requires to pay $75 once but the job has not been completed. Before they require that $75, They should wait until the job is completed to see if there are any problems that would occur or if everything is gonna be intact. Otherwise, when you look, you have to call back and put another claim in. Still, I would recommend them.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield over the phone is easy. Although prior to my most recent claim, which was a dryer issue, they couldn't send the service people that I wanted to bring in. In addition, I had a language barrier issue with the reps who are outside the US. It's so hard to deal with them. It doesn't help that they aren't aware of my area so they keep sending people from 67 miles away and they don't come. I had an issue with a San Francisco company. Since they weren't calling me back, I contacted them and they told me they will reach out. But I said they couldn't come because I'm in San Jose and even though it’s 55 miles driving here in California, it will take them two hours one way. I would need the local guys instead.
With my dryer claim though, the tech came out for repair the very next day after I filed the claim. And he was very knowledgeable so I had no issue. Since the repair, the dryer is working well. Other than that, while AHS has been doing a good job, they need to improve their billing system. It's bad because either we pay to the people who come to service, or they stop doing it. They also say that they will charge my credit card and sometimes it doesn’t get charged. And then we receive an email from them that says my bill hasn't been paid and that they will disconnect my service. Since they don't send the bill, how am I supposed to know? I told them this a couple of times, but I don’t see any improvement. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield. In fact, I have referred them to 42 of my friends and they all have it.

I recently made a claim online for my HVAC, though I prefer to do it with a person. I had to call during the weekend, and because I'm a teacher, the time that people can come is very limited for me now that I'm back in school. I'd like to be able to verbally say that to back the email from the beginning. The online team got back with me right away as to who would be servicing me, but then I never talked to a person. The next email I got was the time and day and it was a four-hour window, and I can't do that as a teacher. For me, it wasn't convenient at all.
I tried to cancel it and I didn't know who to call because I didn't talk to a person. I was very frustrated because I had the number to the contractor, and I called them and said, "I cannot do that appointment, please cancel it. Can we schedule it at a different time as long as it fits for us?" The person who took my call was like, "We don't have anything else, but I'll have my husband call you and maybe he can troubleshoot what's going on." She didn't end up cancelling it and when it was originally scheduled, the tech called me. I also got an email from American Home Shield that said the tech was on the way, and I was already at work. And so, I called the people back and tried to get a hold of them to say, "Don't come."
Once we finally worked everything out, the person who came was excellent. I told AHS not to charge me when they sent that person since that person already came out. They were able to do that and it was all fine. I've had them on two previous homes and that's why I automatically wanted them for this home. American Home Shield is a good company, and this is my first negative situation which was more of a miscommunication for scheduling.

After a storm, our outlet stopped working and I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. They responded quickly and sent a contractor to check the breaker and replace some of the circuits. He responded late but I had a good interaction with him. He was really nice. In the beginning, he was kind of unorganized but once we got into it, he did a thorough check on my breakers. Since the repair, the outlet has been working fine.

Filing a claim for the split type AC was easy. I did it online and then, I called the company that American Home Shield sent out. The service guys were great. It’s just that whoever answered the phone was horrible. It was a 24-hour turnaround to get somebody to answer the phone, get somebody to answer my email. They even said you could do a text. So I tried that, hoping they’ll answer. Nope. I really don’t appreciate their customer service. The repair person looked at the outside unit and said nothing was wrong with it, so we decided to go ahead and fix whatever was downstairs, and it got fixed, and worked for 30 days. Now, the outside unit is broken. How did they not catch that the first time, we could have solved this all together? It really isn’t making me feel very comfortable working with the company. Now, I’m stuck paying to replace my unit. I really don’t want to work with them in the future.

My most recent claim was at Charles Court where American Home Shield had someone come out and fix a bunch of stuff. The contractor had to replace the hot water heater and fix some valves and hoses that were leaking at that property. We ended up selling our property, and a lot of the stuff that I had to have fixed was off of the home inspection so that worked out.
However, AHS could definitely improve their communication with the vendors ‘cause they’re not given the diagnosis immediately. When a vendor is standing in your home and say, “We need to replace this,” it’s like, “Okay, when can you come back?” That process is not ideal. I’m still waiting on them to send somebody back to change the valves, and I’m dreading the phone call ‘cause I gotta call and stay on the phone. The only other issue I had was because the plumber that came was not a good plumber. But once I went to the channels, I finally got somebody at All Hours Plumbing. I've already recommended AHS to my client.

I was selling my home. And so, the inspector determined that one of the outlets wasn’t working properly and that it was causing the breaker to trip. I called AHS to submit a claim and the reps that I spoke with provided excellent customer service. The contractors contacted me within 24 hours too. Elite Electric came out and took a look at it. They found the problem right after that and took care of it. The contractor was very professional and I didn’t have any conflict with him at all. He did his job, he knew his job and he got the work done satisfactorily. I haven’t had any more issues since the repair.
When I had a problem with my stove, I had AHS dispatch a vendor out. The vendor came out and was very professional. He called me within 24 hours. They determined that the stove needed a master igniter. It’s a gas oven. And so, they were going to go and research and see if they could find that igniter. They could not because of the age of the stove. They turned that information back to American Home Shield. American Home Shield determined that I needed a new stove. They gave me an excellent allowance to get a new stove. I've gotten the stove on the way and my refund in process right now. The only problem that I really had with them was I went a whole week of being on the phone, waiting on the phone to get someone on the phone twice during that week. Then in the midst of me telling them the problem and what I was going through, they hung up on me. So, I had to go back and wait.
I got my cell phone in my back pocket, waiting on hold and I waited as long as two and a half hours and never got anyone on the line. It just so happened, it was Friday, I called again and I got a wonderful lady on the phone and she was able to process what I needed. But it should not have taken an entire week to get this done. Now, I’m in the awkward position of getting this stove installed on closing, and it was supposed to be installed prior to closing. So, now, we’re having to amend. After this experience, I will never use American Home Shield and I will not recommend them to anyone if they had to stay on the line all that time.
Good morning Mr. Smith,
I would like to thank you for your feedback regarding both AHS experiences to have the circuit breaker repaired and the oven replaced. I understand your concerns with the week delay to have the replacement installed. I would be glad to speak with you and address your concerns.

My garage door at a property in Washington, D.C. acted up and I had a guy come out. The parts that they needed had to be ordered and it took them a while to come in. The only issue I had was that I didn't realize the entire garage door wasn't covered. It was just the garage door opener itself. So, when the gentleman came in, he said it needed to be adjusted, so that was another $125. Then when they came out again to install the part, he said the spring needed to be replaced and adjusted, so that was another $300. The door was never used after the time he adjusted it for $125, and when he came back, he said I had to replace all that stuff.
The problem was that I'm in the Navy and I'm stationed in California right now. I have renters in there, so I needed to get the door fixed. My frustration was paying for something and then having the contractor come back out a month later and tell me I got to pay for all those stuff. It was kinda up against the wall. Nonetheless, the tech was professional, polite and he explained everything. American Home Shield was really quick to respond and having them is worthwhile for sure.

We had our old dishwasher fixed through American Home Shield. The claim submission process was very easy and I had a good interaction with the representative on the phone. The contractor who came was excellent. He was on time and did what he said he was gonna do. He was also very personable and nice. The soap dispenser part had to be ordered and it took about a week before it came. I had to do dishes by hand until the dishwasher was repaired. Now, it is working well. American Home Shield is a good deal but expect to pay a fee. I get a discount but it's $75 every time I call them to do something. The things that were supposed to be fixed and covered by the homeowner before we moved in didn't get fixed and a few things have gone wrong since I bought the house. It's frustrating but I'm glad I have American Home Shield.

I moved into a new home and it had new appliances. The freezer had a defect where the water for the icemaker would get behind the panel and freeze up the fan. So the refrigerator eventually goes out. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. The interaction with the reps was perfect. They took down the information and they contacted the company. They sent me an email right away that the company has been contacted and I should hear from them within 24 hours. Then, I heard from the company and they sent me a text and told me the day and the time frame of when they would be there. I requested a 30-minute call ahead and they called me 30 minutes ahead so I could leave work and get home. They were there for 15 minutes and the freezer was fixed.
I’ve dealt with many of AHS's contractors for plumbing, hot water heater, and air conditioning issues and they were all very good and professional. They showed up when they say they were going to. They always gave me the 30-minute call ahead and they were quick to get out. I would tell others that American Home Shield is worth the money.

My hot water heater was not turning on automatically. I could go into the garage and move the temp dial and it would come on. Called AHS and used the automated system. Got an email that CNJ services would contact me within 24 hours. on the third day not hearing from CNJ services, called AHS, was on hold for 20 minutes and then finally got someone. they put me on hold and called CNJ services and then finally CNJ services called me shortly after. They made it out to my house over a week after my initial call to AHS. The guy was here maybe ten minutes and said he had to get in touch with AHS to see if they would fix or replace.
The next day I got calls that they were replacing the water heater but I was going to be charged out of my pocket $600+ for modifications. This didn't sound right to me so I had a local handyman come out and take a second look. The handyman hooked the hose up to the hot water heater and started draining to check for any sediment. While it was draining out through the hose he turned up the temp and after a few seconds it kicked on. the next morning I took a shower and it came on automatically again. I obviously did not need a new water heater.
Yesterday I called AHS to tell them about what all had happened and how I did not need a new water heater as the handyman fixed the problem in a few minutes. I was on hold for about 20 minutes again before I got someone in billing. The lady in billing put me on hold to call CNJ services. After being on hold for that she then said she had to transfer me to customer service and was on hold again for 15 minutes. Got another person on the phone and basically got told that my request for a refund was in the notes in the system but that someone higher up had to review it. I asked how long that would take. she said 7-14 days and then to call again if I did not hear anything. we will see what happens. I am not holding my breath.

I called AHS for four weeks after Top Notch came to the house. I had to get my own plumber to open the drain and they did not have to go on the roof. They snaked the same line that Top Notch tried to snake. AHS will not reimburse me for this cost. I think it is unfair that AHS did not offer a second opinion and blamed me for not asking for one when their rep was adamant that they had to go with Top Notch's opinion. The kitchen sink couldn't be used for a whole month. I also called Top Notch Plumbing and they don't answer the phone or return phone messages.

"TEXT: We have had a contract with you for several years and have been paying monthly by check. In early December, we were told we were paid through Dec. 28, 2017. At that time, we sent a check in payment of the month of January, 2018. We are now being told that we owe over $200 in premiums. In looking at the account information, we are unable to determine what this amount is for. In early December, we spoke with someone at AHS about payment and were told that we could not continue to make monthly payments by check. We were told that we would have to pay the full yearly amount by credit card. This is not what we wanted to do."
"Additionally, when we had to make a service request in December, we were told that our coverage had expired. When we called the phone number, we were put on hold for over 45 minutes. We finally reached someone in the accounting office who was able to verify that we were not expired and the service request was handled by this person. Given the difficulty that we have had and are having with the communication and the bookkeeping of your company, we are no longer going to do business with American Home Shield."
LETTER TO PRESIDENT: We sent a letter to the president of the company in January 2018 explaining our decision to cancel and to make sure that he was aware of the problems we had encountered (just in case he wanted to correct them). We received a form letter from his office (not even from him) saying he was sorry we were not renewing -- end of conversation!

On August 6, 2018, a service request was placed for our 35-yr-old KitchenAid dishwasher. The service technician said the machine needed 2 parts - both of which he believed would not be available. He advised them that they would most likely be offered a replacement dishwasher. On August 16, 2018, AHS sent an email detailing the replacement options. On August 20, 2018, a reply email was sent to AHS accepting the replacement option of the Bosch dishwasher model offered in the earlier email. On August 23, 2018, AHS sent an email explaining that the dishwasher had been ordered and should be delivered in 10-14 business days. NO FURTHER CONTACT WAS INITIATED BY AHS. No one called or emailed to find out if the unit had been delivered or installed.
After a month of waiting, I called AHS to discuss the delay. After waiting for over 25 minutes to speak with someone, they told me that the appliance would be delivered on 9/25/2018. I was also told to call the delivery company the evening before to verify the delivery. When I called about the delivery, I was told that the appliance was on back-order and would not be delivered until October 9, 2018. Again, I initiated the call, AHS DID NOT CALL TO VERIFY THAT THE DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION WAS ON SCHEDULE. When I did talk with the Appliance Support person, I was told that I could take the payout or wait for the selected dishwasher.
Finally, on October 9, 2018, the dishwasher arrived!!! It now sits in the middle of the kitchen floor waiting to be installed! I called the service technician that was supposed to do the installation many times, starting as early as September 24, 2018. The technician NEVER returned my calls. In desperation, I once again called the Appliance Support number (another 20 minute wait, even after asking for a callback)! I spoke with April, who was very nice and assigned a different service company to do the installation. I waited all afternoon and most of the next morning for the company to call. When I had heard nothing, I called the company. The person handling the scheduling said she had a technician in the area, and she would have him come between 1-5 pm. that day, Thursday, October 11, 2018. He was to call 15 minutes before arriving. Waited all afternoon for a phone call - none came!
On Friday, October 12, 2018, I called the company at 12:11 and again at 12:17 p.m. Evidently, they put their phone on voicemail during lunch, but they do not clear their messages. The mailbox was full; I could not even leave a message. Again in desperation, I called the Appliance Support number at 12:20 p.m. and left a callback request. At 12:49 p.m., I received a callback and was again put on hold to wait for someone to come on the line. I am not sure of the name of the person with whom I spoke, but she put me on hold in order to call the company herself. According to your service support person, she was told that the company had called and left a message saying that the technician could not make it that day and had to re-schedule for Tuesday, October 16, 2018.
When I finally reached the scheduler at Suretec Appliance Repair, she assured me that she in fact HAD NOT CALLED AND LEFT A MESSAGE. In fact, she said she had not learned that the installation had not been done until she got the call from AHS! My only conclusion is that your representative lied to me. The 51-day saga continues - hopefully the final chapter will be complete on Tuesday next! Needless to say, I will not be continuing my contract with AHS.
Good morning Ms. Young,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience to have the dishwasher replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with a completion of the installation.

I called to request service on 08/07/18 because my AC was not working. They said they would have their preferred HVAC company contact me to make an appt within 24 hours. I asked if there was any way to escalate but they said, "No AC did not qualify as an emergency." So I finally get a call the next day and they can have a service person at my house the following day. Day 3, the guy shows up and says that yes, I do have a problem and that they have to get approval to replace the compressor... This could take up to 48 hours.
I called to escalate but again was told that it was not an emergency. Now I have been without AC in my house for 4 days and have spent $125 on the deductible to have an HVAC company that is more than 40 miles from my house. Because of how far they are and their schedule they would not be able to schedule another service call until up to 24 hours after the up to 48 hours approval time. I called again and asked if I could hire my own, local HVAC company to replace the compressor and they said they would have to send the request to another dept to approve the "cash out" and it could take up to 48 hours...
I went ahead and had my compressor replaced by my HVAC guy the same day I called him and it cost $2200. In researching the price of the compressor itself the part on average costs for a compressor for my size unit is $1700. I called them back again and they said I was approved to receive $750. What a joke. I had no choice but to take the $750. So at the end of the day I spent $2200 for the local repair (same day), $125 deductible and $450 in hotel costs to be reimbursed for $750. I would not recommend this warranty company to my worst enemy. Save yourself time, money and frustration by not using American Home Shield. I almost forgot... After I received my check for $750 I called to cancel my contract and was advised there is a $14 administrative cost to cancel. Ridiculous. Thank is all.

An issue arose with my hot water heater and just as many other reviews have indicated they denied my claim. I have devoted countless hours to this issue, sitting on hold, speaking with Reps in a foreign country, dealing with a service company that literally spent 3 minutes looking at the hot water heater only to state that, "I'll have to write this up to send to your insurance, give me a few," then sit in his truck and drive off. I haven't heard a word from anyone for 2 1/2 days later until I called AHS to find out what is going on THEN they tell me it was denied and it will cost approximately $1000 to repair.
Naturally, they have charged me the $100 deductible, for nothing in return. I can't keep pursuing issues with them at the rate of the time consumption it requires so I asked to cancel the policy then, they ask if I want a second opinion. "No, I'm done, cancel the policy because I am cutting my losses." I will never pay this kind of money for a warranty plan without first checking BBB website and picking an A+ company in the future. I submitted an online request to American Home Shield and about eight hours later, I received an email telling me that I was assigned a contractor and the contractor would contact me directly.
I got a call from the contractor the same day and the guy told me they have time slots available, so we scheduled it up. I took their earliest time possible which was three days. I initially submitted my claim online for my water heater to AHS to get the appointment set up and everything went nicely and smoothly. Their online site was pretty straightforward. They called a local contractor that called me the next day and set up an appointment. Then they came out and said that it was a loose connection and that they may have fixed the problem. But they had to come out a second time because it leaked again and ended up having to replace the water heater.
The overall turnaround time was over a week because of scheduling. But in my case, it was okay because the leak was very minor so it wasn’t an emergency. Other than that, the contractors were friendly and they did exactly what they needed to do. They explained what they were doing while they were doing it and told me what they were replacing while they were replacing it. American Home Shield is great. Some of my co-workers use a different company and we compared the cost of the initial appointment versus the cost of the overall payment. During one claim, the pipe underneath the sink was leaking and the garbage disposal went out. The tech that came replaced the garbage disposal and the pipe underneath the sink, so it stopped leaking.
The rough part was being without a refrigerator for a month. When I moved in here on June 30th, it only lasted the 12 days. The repairman told me it was from 1988 and that I would need another one. It took a month to get the refrigerator, but I've been blessed so I can’t complain. Right now, I’m waiting for AHS to get back to me about my stove. I was baking and I shut it off, and the indicator light went on and it never turned off. They sent a repairman a couple of days ago and they’re waiting for his report. I called on a Monday for the washing machine that broke and the subcontractor called on Tuesday and said that they can get to us the following Thursday.
In our most recent claim with the AC, I had to get some independent contractor. Some electrical capacitor went out in our outside AC. We're right where the hurricane hit, so most of the vendors that AHS uses got flooded. So we ended up using our own contractors, and then they would send them the bill forward. I have always had good service from American Home Shield and I've always been happy with them. I’ve been here 24 years now and they have put in a new furnace, a new air conditioner, two or three hot water heaters and a couple of toilets. It has been worth every penny. As a single parent, you don’t usually have the money to replace things right on the dot. I was a single mother when I moved in here and I certainly could not have replaced an air conditioner the first year I was here. The contractors came out and put in a new air compressor, and it has been good.
I like to submit claims over the phone and AHS always gets someone out here at an appropriate time. The recent contractor was PARR and I had them look at two things at one time. They put in a new hot water heater the first time because that was part of the problem, and that was great. They came right away and fixed my problem. They were very professional. Also, the toilets were running and they fixed that as well. It certainly made me not having to go into the toilet running all the time, and it lowered my water bill.

My heater wasn’t working and the board for the salt water wasn’t working. American Home Shield's reps were very professional. They originally called somebody to come out for the heater. The guy that they called originally to come out said he doesn’t usually work on the system that I had, so they called out a second opinion who came out and fixed it. They were really good. I had fantastic interactions with the contractors that came. Both came and did a great job. They were very professional and friendly. They explained to me what the problem was, fixed it and left. I have a home warranty with another company and I am not a fan of the other company. I swore that I would never go and get another home warranty that I would just pay for it myself, and my Realtor convinced me to get it. And American Home Shield is ten times better than the other company.

I've always had a good rapport with the AHS and I've been with them for years. I only had a problem with them one time over a different issue but normally, they're really good. Recently, our garbage disposal was old and burned out so I filed a claim over the phone. An hour after I contacted AHS, the contractor called me and set up an appointment. He came out and took care of it the next morning. He was very professional, respectful, and down to earth in a very friendly manner. The only complaint I have with AHS is that the rates have gone up three different times and I have an automatic withdraw so I didn’t know. The least they can do is give a notice about it. But I am very satisfied with them 99% of the time and I've recommended them highly to homeowners.

The motor in the compressor outside of the house was not turning the fan therefore, my house was not cooling. I diagnosed that myself because I could see that the fan wasn’t moving. I knew that something had to be done so I contacted American Home Shield online and arranged for a service. The contractor they sent out came on schedule and did it right the first time. He quickly diagnosed the issue and fixed the problem. He replaced the motor within the same day as he had the part on the truck and the AC was up and running. He did a good job.

American Home Shield is awesome and they stand behind their word. They are very helpful and wanted to help me. I had problems with my pool since I bought the house, so I got the home warranty with the house when I bought it. The pump motors have issues and the pool turned green, so it was unusable and it cost me extra money and chlorine. American Home Shield has been really quick and they got a hold of a contractor and got things fixed as quickly as possible. The contractor was responsive too. He came out, was very friendly and once he got the parts in, he got it done quickly. The pumps work great now. Also, I’ve already recommended American Home Shield a couple times. One hears bad things about home warranty programs most of the time and that they don't ever cover anything, but I’ve had a great experience with American Home Shield.

I had a problem with the washing machine which was not working properly, so I called American Home Shield and they helped me. The process was very straightforward and their people were very helpful. At first, I was sent a contractor who made a review on the problem and offered a solution. I didn't agree with his understanding of the problem, so I had to call again at AHS. I was sent another contractor who inspected the problem, and they found out what the problem was which I agreed with, and then they solved it. It was a good experience for me because American Home Shield understands their customers. If you have any disagreement with any contractor, they're able to send another contractor.
This is our third year being subscribed to American Home Shield. During our first year, it was for a rental house and our landlord was subscribed to them. Because we were happy with the support, we decided to continue it. This year, I wanted to extend for one more year and I took the quotes from the website, and the one that the website gave me was lower than the one that their people were giving to me. I talked to their people and they didn't change, so I was upset about it. They explained that newcomers can get a discount, but if there's a loyal customer, they deserve the lowest price possible. Also, I've been receiving some text messages and emails, notifying me about some maintenance that do not belong to our current address, but the previous address. Other than that, I've recommended AHS to several people.

I submitted a claim online to AHS and Sears came out. The refrigerator door wouldn’t close and the person that came out checked it out. He said that there were some parts that needed to be ordered. So, he ordered the parts and they sent them to the house. He scheduled the appointment to come back out to fix it. So, it was a week later when they came out and put the parts on. And it’s been working fine since the repair. I also submitted a claim one time when I had a blockage in my drain in my garage, but they never really got that fixed. So, I’m gonna have to do another claim. But other than that, my experience with AHS has been okay.

I called American Home Shield for my dryer that was making noise. The reps listened to me and I had no problems when I made the call. The dryer has been working fine since and we've been using it a lot. I've been satisfied 100 percent all the way because they repaired my water heater and refrigerator, too. They're all brand new but they went out on me and I got the AHS techs over here to take care of me. I used to have Sears for all my appliances but I cancelled considering lousy service that I was getting from them to great service that I got from AHS. My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my washing machine. I did that one online and the repairman came quickly. After they came for the first time, they checked it out and they had to go order parts. But then they couldn’t make it work because the bolts kept breaking. They decided the unit wasn’t able to be fixed. So I ended up having to get a new one. The washer was out for at least a good two weeks and I had to go to my mother-in-law to do the laundry. I called in periodically to check status and ask questions, and I ended up doing cash in lieu because I ended up getting a washer-dryer pair. The process was not difficult at all. I went and bought the unit then I faxed in the invoice. They had also mailed out the check on the day that I called and I got the check the next day. So it worked very well. In fact, any time I've ever used American Home Shield, I have not had any problems. They're good.

I received an email that there was an offer that I could take advantage of until the end of October to have a full furnace inspection and cleaning for $75. So I called American Home Shield and paid the $75 on the spot. Then the heating and air conditioning company that they contract with contacted me within half an hour of my signing up and paying, and they scheduled an appointment.
AHS also offered a package to rekey all the locks in the house and they sent out the contractor, Lang’s Locks. A nice guy came out and I offered him the use of my workbench or to do the work inside the house, but he said that he had it set up that he can do the work in his car. But it was hot so I felt bad for him. He was professional and extremely thorough. He showed me that every single lock worked and he wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with the work before he left. He provided excellent service and this has given me peace of mind that, even if I purchased the home from somebody else, now no one has a key to my house.
I’ve never purchased any type of warranty when I bought a home before and AHS was above what I expected. I didn’t expect them to have preventative maintenance or change lock offers and to give me offers to help with the maintenance, so I was very surprised. I thought I was only going to hear from them or need them if I had a failure. But I’d much rather pay $75 and have my furnace inspected and tuned up, rather than have my furnace dying and need help then. It's like your health. You can either be preventative and do the maintenance that you need or you can wait until you’re in your deathbed. I like the fact that they’re proactive.

They weren't able to fix the problem the first time, so they had to come back, but they fixed it eventually. American Home Shield charges $75 for service calls and that varies from market to market. That is definitely higher because there are competing warranty services elsewhere where the service calls can cost less. If I call somebody in my market locally, they will cost me $55 or $60. Still, having a home warranty through American Home Shield is very valuable. Their service is very good and so is their quality. I've had a good experience with them overall.

The actual representative I’ve spoken to has been very professional and has helped me in trying to work my way through whatever the problem was. Sometimes though, it's hard to get a real person when you call American Home Shield and that's my biggest thing because some of the menu items don’t apply. But, they've been prompt. When I called one day, before I could hang up good, they told me they had an opening for the contractors to come out the next day.
The contractors came out on the 18th and they listened to me trying to explain what I wanted them to look at. They didn't look at me like I was crazy, so I appreciate that. They came back on the 26th within that window that they told me they would be here to do the work and then they got the job done. Now, it’s so nice and cool in here. I can’t even hear the system, so I’m really pleased. The system was old and it’s hard to keep replacing things, so it was the best thing that I did as far as getting a replacement.

American Home Shield sent a contractor to replace our water heater. The contractor did a great job with that and it was very efficiently done. We also had another claim when the swimming pool made a noise in the pipes all the way to the front of the house when we filled it. We called the contractor out for that, but they said there was nothing that could be done about it. We still have that problem and I don't understand why it can't be remedied.
I have also been concerned because I was told at first that we didn't owe anything, then we subsequently kept getting email and phone messages that we owed money. We were under the impression that the fee was automatically charged to our account, but for some reason it wasn't. I'm a little confused between the people that came out to Granada Hills and those that came out to our place in Rancho Mirage because the issues in those two places were closely related, although they were independent issues. It took me several times to get that matter straightened out. It was finally taken care of, but it was frustrating and I was unhappy about that.
Other than that, our interaction with the claims reps and their professionalism were fine when we submitted our claims with American Home Shield on the phone. Also, everything has been fine in our dealings with the contractors sent out by AHS. They came out the same day that we called or the next day. Customer service wait times are long, and the contractors they send spend maybe 10 minutes in our house, have never fixed an issue, and leave as quickly as possible. When we needed our lights fixed, the contractor installed substantially lower quality and functionality lights. When we complained, American Home Shield said that they cover only the lowest cost and quality repair, even if they don't have the same functionality. We submitted a claim for a leaking dishwasher, and they refused to cover repairs because they said it wasn't installed correctly (before we even purchased the home), so it's our problem. I will be cancelling our policy because it just costs us money and provides no value or peace of mind. Save your money!

They have verbally and in writing told my client that if he doesn't get the work done, American Home Shield will not cover potential future leaks. I am a new homeowner. It is the first time I'm using AHS (first year contract < 2 months old). My A/C was not working. It is a Trane high-efficiency unit. I paid the service fee of $100. The first contractor assigned did not even touch the system or thermostat stating it is a Trane system and a Trane specialist has to attend to it. Before the 2nd contractor was sent, I made very clear that I have a Trane high-efficiency system and not all contractors can fix it. So to send someone who can actually diagnose the unit. I was sent another contractor, who again stated the same as first contractor, and again did not touch a single thermostat/equipment.
The above process took more than a week to begin with. Every time, I had to initiate the follow up conversation. So, after the 2nd contractor visited, I was chatting with an agent, and the agent requested me to go for outside authorization as they don't have any contractor who is Trane specialized in their network in my area. Left with no other option, I did call the external contractor and got it fixed. Since it was a damage due to a pest short circuiting my condenser, I was not reimbursed the repair cost ($200) stating it was not covered in contract. I called AHS customer service and authorization department, to refund my service fee which they charged for someone to come in and not do anything the first two attempts (not even attempt to troubleshoot/ touch the unit), or pay me the service fee of $97.00 (not repair cost) for the external authorization.
I was denied the request by representative and my call was cut 2 times after 15 minutes wait time, when I requested to talk to supervisor. Please note: 1. not having a contractor who is certified to repair high-efficiency systems is not in my hands. The contract should clearly then state that AHS does not have contractors for high-efficiency systems. 2. I did not request for outside authorization. I was asked by AHS to find an external contractor as AHS did not have a contractor to even diagnose the fault. Then, why should I not be refunded the service fee (either for the job not attempted to diagnose or for the external authorization contractor).
I'm thinking of cancelling the contract with AHS as most of the systems in my home are high-efficiency systems. Very disappointed. I m at a loss of money by signing up for "complete shield plan" and in addition to the service fee! To add to that, the contractor assigned first did not even respond within 24 hours for an appointment time (this is in spite of me contacting the assigned contractor and leaving several voice messages). Will not recommend AHS for anyone who has high-efficiency systems. Customer service is very poor as well.

I had a water heater that was leaking so I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. When the tech first came in, he told us it would cost $365 on our part claiming that the water heater needed to be raised and he was gonna have to pay $200 more for a permit because he didn't have the license to work in this county that he thought we were in. Also, he said he needed to install a ball valve to bring everything up to code.
I tried to explain to him that we live in Oklahoma City city limits, which he was licensed for. And I would know that for a fact because I’m a retired Home City Police Officer, I would know full well where city limits are. Also, I asked if I could go to Lowe's and pick up the parts so that I could get my tax exempt and my discount. He agreed to do that and wrote a list of the parts that he thought he needed which included a pan for the hot water heater. It was electric and Oklahoma City Code says that an electric hot water heater can settle on the floor and that it has to be at 18" above at ignition source. The tech wanted four cinder blocks to better raise the heater. So, I picked those up and the water pan.
Then, he told us that we were gonna have to tear up a part of the shelves of our water heater's inner pantry to be able to get the water heater in there. I was not following exactly why he even thought that. He replaced the water heater with the same thing and we did not end up having to take our permanent shelving down. He wanted $225 for the work that he had accomplished but he didn’t accomplish anything. He didn’t end up using the cement blocks and in fact, wanted me to purchase the flexible copper lines to hook up the water heater which he said AHS was paying for and so he brought his own. After we got the water back on, the ball valve was leaking and he tightened it a little bit. Then, he was able to get it to quit leaking but he didn’t offer to make sure the leak would stop.
After all my experience with him, I felt uncomfortable that he was gouging AHS along with trying to charge us for service and trip charges. I stopped the check that I had written him. We’ve had comments in conversations since, but he even made comments on his phone. He said he had to be compensated for his time and I texted him back and telling him that I felt that his time was compensated by his contract with AHS. I hope there was something on AHS's site to be able to get back and express some disappointment on the contractors. I wanted to convey at least our billings about how he performed and his professionalism. But this was not a bad experience with AHS, this was a bad experience with the provider. We’ve used AHS before in three or four different occasions and I’ve been completely satisfied and very happy with the professionals they’ve sent out. I would highly recommend AHS.

I had an electrician and a plumber, and they both did the job. They were able to make the repairs on the day that they came out and they did excellent work.
But American Home Shield is not informing the people who have their policy what their coverage is. When I first bought our house, it was never explained to me that I had a warranty with AHS. I should have been given some information in the escrow office on what my coverage was, but there was nothing and that was not correct. There were some problems in the house and I just fixed these on my own. I bought a new dishwasher because the previous one didn’t work and everything came out greasy. I didn’t realize that my AHS warranty could have covered that issue and something else. Later on, I spoke with my realtor about these issues and he spoke with an AHS rep who came to his office all the time. I went through American Home Shield online and requested service for my water heater. Then Water Control Plumbing came out and checked the unit. The guy who came out the first time said the problem was a valve and he fixed it, but it didn’t last. I have tenants in that property and they said water was everywhere. So I called the contractor back and that was when they told me I needed a new water heater. I had great interactions with the contractor and everything has been great since the repair.
I have used American Home Shield three times over a year and it has been excellent service. I had an issue though with one of their plumbing companies and it was for that same water heater. The contractor came out about four times and every time he came, he said he was gonna come back in two days. So I had to make a complaint about that and American Home Shield had no problem replacing him with another one from another company. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I have American Home Shield in my other home. The contractors they send out always come in a timely manner and fix everything. They never have an issue when I call them and ask them what's going on since I'm never home. I usually submit the claims over the phone and I get an automated number of who I need to come out. The process is easy and I love it. The contractors usually come out the next day. So far, everything is fixed. My AC has always improved when they leave. I just I need a new AC altogether, a bigger one. I don't think it's big enough for that house.
I also need to call them about the dishwasher that stopped working. If I didn't have AHS, I'd have to pay somebody to come out and the cost is probably more than $175. And when the guy comes out to check my dishwasher and says, "We can't repair this," AHS is gonna send me a comparable check. It's not like they're gonna buy me a brand new one, but they're still gonna send me something comparable. I can deal with that. I can add extra $100 or so and I'm done. All I have to do is call Home Shield and if I don't like what happens, I'm sure they're gonna fix it. I'd recommend American Home Shield. It's weird to own a home and not have a home warranty.

We own a $600,000 home and we didn’t have a warranty until this past year. We thought to give American Home Shield a try see if it’s worth it, and it’s paid off more than we could possibly say. We’ve had to put in a service request twice now, and they’ve been fantastic. The dryer in the home we're renting out broke and the fuse burned out. I submitted the claim online and the process was very efficient, smooth and user-friendly. I was quite pleased with it. Our home where the dryer was being replaced is in Colorado and we're stationed in Georgia, so we had to help walk the contractor through the process. It might not be the normal process for everyone, but we were involved every step of the way just to make sure the tenants could meet the appointments. The contractor tried to fix it, but they couldn’t find a replacement part and so we just got another one. Overall our experience has been wonderful.

When our motor and heat pump went out, American Home Shield sent people out. This was during the pre and post Florence event here in Richmond, Virginia so there were a lot of people who might have had a higher priority than us, but the people who came out responded very quickly and we were very happy with Clifton Heating. The interaction was excellent and the company was professional and great at communicating. I was very impressed and we set up a maintenance contract with them. Since then, everything has been working perfectly. I've owned 14 homes and I've never had a home warranty before. We would hit our year with AHS on the 20th and we had another experience with a water leak so we were able to use them twice, at the very end of our contract. I like the contractors that AHS have partnered up with. We had a very good experience and it’s working for us.

The contractor that was sent by American Home Shield for the AC came out and did nothing. Recently, I filed a claim for the refrigerator and they defrosted the freezer and did something with the heating coil. The contractors have been out three times and my ice maker still doesn’t work. They had to order the part and they put it in. It still wasn't working so they had to come back out. It’s now making ice but the dispenser isn’t working so, the ice keeps piling up and we have to keep dumping so that was irritating. Still, American Home Shield is a great concept. I like that everything is covered under them and it's easy to just go online and I pay there too. Plus, they call me in 24 hours.

My wall oven stopped working. I was told that it was a power thing, but when I got that done on my own, I was told something about cooling. It didn't give me a code though. I tried again later and once, the unit worked after a switch out in the garage was flipped. But later, it stopped working again. So I called American Home Shield. They sent a couple of different people and they were very nice. The first guy who came out was able to figure out what was wrong, but he told me that he couldn't pull the unit out of the wall because he didn't have anyone to help him. He told me that he would tell the warranty people that they needed to send other people. Another guy came and he determined the same problem the first guy determined. He went and ordered the part, and then he came back and fixed the unit. The whole repair took a couple of weeks.

I've had some follow-ups on a couple of claims prior to this one and the technician that I had at my other place was rude, the worst. I almost dropped my American Home Shield with them. I recently filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my microwave. Their site said said that their servicer will set an appointment to come and repair it. When he, I had a comfortable conversation with him. He did a good job and fixed the issue. The repairs for the appliances by AHS contractors have been good. However, they have had hiccups with the AC. My air conditioning needed three or four visits. One day, they did not do a good job and left the parts and I had to call them back again. I'm not happy with that. Still, now my air conditioning is working as expected. Also, with AHS, before we proceed with the work with the contractor, we really know what is covered and how much we'll be able to pay.

I have several appliances that are not working--the dryer, the range above the stove, and the refrigerator. The washing machine also had a problem, but it was working. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the experience was fine. Then, the appliance person came out within two weeks. I also needed help with the dishwasher, but unfortunately, I forgot to tell them about it when I submitted the claim and the appliance person told me that I have to call that in for another claim and pay for a secondary visit.
After the first visit, there was no follow-up. I made five phone calls to American Home Shield and they've been really difficult to get a hold of. I was on hold for 45 minutes one time and 40 minutes on another time. I talked to a manager two different times and when I asked for a manager other times, the representative handled it instead. I also left around five messages with the appliance service provider, but I didn’t hear back from him either.
Finally, last week, I was contacted by the service provider who had come out for the first visit and he asked me to provide him with some more information on the refrigerator. He told me that he put in a work order for both the dryer and the range hood to be replaced and that, in his words, I should have been contacted already by American Home Shield for replacement. However, I have not been contacted by them. I expected that the refrigerator would also be replaced, but he said American Home Shield was sending parts for him to try to piece it together, and so, I am not thrilled.
I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield. There was no follow-up on their side. They told me they were following up, but they didn’t. I got the feeling they were trying to avoid resolving my issue and my impression of them is they were hoping that I would give up and just buy the appliances myself. It's been two months since the claim that has the appliance service provider on it and I still have no working dryer and range hood. The problem with the refrigerator is that it freezes the food in the refrigerator section, so I have to keep throwing food out. That also impacts my electric bill. With the experience I've had, I'm not really excited about doing another claim with them.
Good morning Ms. Lyons,
Thank you for the feedback regarding your experience regarding the claim on several appliances that need to be repaired. I would be glad to assist with the repairs and get the issues resolved.

There was a couple of issues about it because it took a little bit longer than I wanted for the techs to get out there and submit what needed to be done. Then I had to call them back to get an update because I hadn’t heard anything from them after that and I thought they just let it go.
Apparently, it took a long time to get the parts in to fix it. It would have been nice to get a text message or email to keep me informed on what was going on. Because with four kids and not having a working microwave, 14 days seemed like an eternity, but overall it was an okay experience. Our faucet was totally disintegrated and I had told AHS that the faucet needed to be replaced, so they thought of sending a technician. When he came in, he said that they would get back to me after they checked to see if it was covered under my warranty, but they never did. I called the company to follow up, but they put me on hold and kept telling me that they gotta call the technician to find out what was going. Only the tech had any control over what was happening, which was weird. Also, the rep said that the faucet had to be special ordered through American Home Shield, which they did, and they would have to wait for it to be delivered. But they didn't order the part when they initially came out and they didn’t do anything until I called them.
I got updates from the company, telling me that the part still hadn’t come in. But now, I haven't heard from them and I still have no faucet in my kitchen. Everything else has always been fine with AHS, except for this one. American Home Shield covers some stuff, but I have to wait for them and they’re more of a repair versus replace. They're gonna be fixing stuff until they absolutely have no choice, which I'm okay with because I rather have something than nothing.

They told me that they'd be notifying the plumbing company and they will be giving me a call. The plumber came over to take a look at it the first time, but he wasn’t able to do much. He came over a second time, went to the area, then opened it up. He was able to diagnose where the molds were and where the water leak was coming from.
He was helpful, took his time and did a good job. He was patient at investigating the issue and gave his honest and expert opinion on what he thought was the problem. Overall, everything went well. This is our first time having a warranty and it's a great option to have when buying a new home. Years ago, we had an issue with the dryer and that was a fiasco. It was because of the service rep that worked for the company -- he ended up getting fired. I called Home Shield for a water heater problem and I don’t like talking to a machine, so I tried to get a human. Once I get a human being, I have no problems. The contractor AHS sent worked on my claim and he didn’t see any problem. All he did was clean it up and put two new pipes on. A week later, the problem was still there. He came back because he didn’t replace the two items he cleaned and then I called to make a new appointment. Some of the contractors Home Shield gets in the area are one-person companies and they’ve only got themselves to do the work, so if they’re overloaded with calls, you gotta wait.
I called the contractor for how many times and soon, he left a message saying that the contract was transferred to somebody else, which it wasn’t. The operator said she had to make another attempt to call him. Something happened and she assigned me another vendor. Since I already knew what the problem was, I handed it to him and he fixed it. We’ve only been in the house for not quite two years yet and all in all, my experience with Home Shield has been good.

On September 2, 2018, my Central Air Conditioning Unit stopped putting out any air. Being a holiday, the next day I called American Home Shield (AHS), who contacted a contractor to come look at the unit (this is the 5th service call in 2 years). The contractor came out on the 5th and stated that the blower motor was not working and they would need to let AHS know and would be in touch. On September 7, the A/C contractor called me to let me know that AHS said they had ordered the part and would have it shipped to the contractor who would then call me and let me know when it would be in.
When asked how long it would take to get the part, the contractor said I would have to ask AHS that question, because they didn't even know why they were having to order it instead of the contractor. The days in North Georgia were in the upper 90s and the temperature in my home in the evenings and nights reached 87 degrees and higher, causing us to go purchase 5 box fans and a window air conditioner, and just being in our home was miserable. After 2 weeks of NO air conditioning in our home, and the contractor still not knowing what is happening, I reach out to AHS who tells me time and time again that they haven't heard from the parts company and will call me when they do.
Around September 19th, AHS tells me the part is on the truck and will be delivered the very next day and they would contact the contractor to get the part installed. After no response for 2 days, I call back and they tell me the wrong part was delivered and I would have to wait (with many, many apologies). I requested a manager or supervisor multiple times in this conversation that was not once acknowledged by the messaging representative, although they did offer to waive the $75.00 service fee (which the rep did not do at this time). Throughout the following week, again multiple phone calls and chat conversations with no results (now nearly a month with no air conditioning).
Approximately September 27-28, I call and request a retention specialist to which I'm told that they can give me the number, but there is no one to take my call. When I call that number, they are offline and the representative will have to fill out the appropriate forms and the retention specialist will call the customer within 48 hours.
When I call back with absolutely no patience, the representative then tells me that they will have an escalation specialist call me. After the escalation specialist calls me back and I go over everything for then what seems like 100th time, she assures me she will look into the issue and call me back, which she does promptly. She assures me she will make sure the service fee is waived as promised, which she does promptly and sends me an email stating it is done, and states that the part is scheduled for delivery in the next 2 to 3 days according to the parts company and the tracking number. That would put delivery approximately on Friday, October 5th- 8th.
Update: Today is Wednesday, November 10th. I just hung up from AHS who tells me that the part was not delivered and that he attempted to call the parts company. There was no answer and he left a message requesting the status on the part. He also was empathetic and stated he also requested another resolution representative get involved since it is now over a month with no resolution. After 5 service calls and several thousand dollars, why hasn't this unit been replaced since the A/C contractor stated they have recommended it several times. I did speak to another A/C contractor who told me they could have the part delivered and installed in 5 days. Where is the promise of service and excellence that AHS advertises and promotes. This service is unacceptable and inexcusable.

Automatic response from AHS that I could not be contacted (I have no missed calls or voicemail messages). Automated email response from the AHS selected Contractor (Plumbing Company) requesting an email to schedule service. I sent 4 email responses (no answer) and placed 3 phone calls to the Contractor over 12 days. Each time I was left on hold averaging 30 minutes and never received an answer.
Finally, on 10/2, 12 day after our claim, I called AHS and the rep immediately got the Contractor on the phone. He was rude but we scheduled a service call for 10/4. While the technician was friendly, rep during the follow-up call with AHS informed us that we would have to pay $900 out of pocket for "modifications" required by the Contractor. AHS would pay for the water heater replacement labor but we would first have to pay $900 to the Contractor. We contacted another local plumber to come and evaluate (the next day was his response time) and learned that the "Modifications" were unnecessary and that we could get a new unit for cost of the unit and installation. We now have a new working unit with no assistance from the Home Warranty. We paid $100 to AHS for nothing but dodged the $900 additional cost that they attached to this job.

Getting in touch with AHS is ridiculous, my last call I was on hold for 20 minutes. The service people are nice enough but don't have the authority to make things right. When they kick you over to supervisor no one answers. The vendors they use are even worst. I think the vendors know how to work AHS to get as many trip fees as they can hence prolonging the repair. My dryer took over a month to get repaired and my tenants were not happy as you can imagine. Water heater took 3 weeks before they decided to replace. In replacing the vendor wanted to charge $1400 for install and so called code updates. I got a local plumber and it cost me $750 for everything along with the wasted $100 I already spent on AHS!
My dishwasher at the rental just went out and they tried to set me up with the same vendor I had for the dryer, are you kidding me? I called and changed vendors and reviews and issues reflect the same with them as it relates to AHS. I’m a customer as of around 4 years. Very disappointed in your company recently. When I call, I get people hard to understand in other countries, am switched to a number of people that have to start from scratch and document and don’t handle the problem. Today I was on hold for almost an hour and then hung up on. I am waiting for a cash out check which I’ve not received and supposedly mailed Sept 11.
I was told over a week ago that I was to receive a check any day, and would be able to apply the amount towards the repair of an A/C unit. I was then sent by a woman at AHS to billing so I would be able to find out the exact day the check was sent. After several times of being sent to other departments, along with being asked each time to explain all over again and then put on hold over and over, I reached your appliance department, which I finally opted to try. Hoping by chance they pick up, and they did. They were nice enough because of my frustration to do some digging and said a check was sent out already Sept 9th. Yesterday since (beginning of October) I had still not received it.
I called again, then I was told it was sent Sept 11th, 2018. The unit has not been fixed and I’m waiting for a check to put towards the cost. I was told I could put the check towards the repair and send proof it was fixed so that the unit would continued to be covered. I’m tired of getting mixed messages. I’ve never opted to get a cash out but in this case it would save money so I did it. All the $20 a month I’ve spent in 4 years and items fixed in which I know they’ve made plenty of money on. Now I’ve waited around a month to get money from them? There is also nowhere to email a department anywhere that I’ve found? Only option is to enter info and wait for a callback or call and get passed around. It now seems this has not been worth it.

For some reason, the plastic on the door of our microwave over the stove started cracking up into the glass door. I easily filed a claim and the contractor AHS sent was very helpful. He was great. Everything is resolved and we opted to get a microwave that we bought ourselves and I'm supposed to get reimbursed once I get the paperwork back in for the credit. In this area, AHS has a guy who helped us with our refrigerator as well as with our stove and microwave. He explained and showed what he was doing along the way and I better understood how my appliance works. He is highly knowledgeable and I really like him. He's very good, dependable and there right when he says.

The most recent claim was with a refrigerator that was broken, and we submitted a claim for it online. American Home Shield's site is very user-friendly. The contractor came out and he was excellent. He did whatever he needed to do. He ordered a part and once he received that, he came back. That was a five-day turnaround. However, he wasn't able to install the part because of the way our refrigerator was. He ended up having to replace the refrigerator, which was a little bit more downtime. In the end, we got a new unit and that more than made up for it. I'd definitely recommend using American Home Shield.

When I called American Home Shield and made an appointment with the K&K Heating and Plumbing people, the reps at AHS told me they were coming. But then, I went online and read the reviews, and I freaked out. So I called AHS again and they told me they were gonna send another people. The people they were supposed to send didn't call me so I called them and the guy I spoke with was rude. He said he didn't get my request. So I called AHS back and they told me that I can't change contractors when they're in the middle of something just because I have read reviews online. So I told them to send the original one which was K&K.
I have to admit that all those things that were written about them were absolutely not true. The guy who came to my house and the guy who called were the two most professional people around. The guy who came explained to me what he was doing. When he came to the house, it was a perfectly nice day. There was no mud or anything but he put something on his feet and walked downstairs. He did the whole thing and took care of it. Then, he literally cleaned up after himself, took everything out, even the things that he repaired. He was also extremely polite. Other than that, when I got notifications from the guy at the other place, who said that he didn't have any of my stuff, I called AHS and I waited on the phone for three hours. That was insane. I did go online to set up the account cause I got better things to do. In the end, though, the hot water heater works perfectly since the repair.

When the air conditioner broke and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim, it took forever to talk to someone. I was on hold for at least half an hour and we finally hung up. I called back and although the one I spoke with was pleasant, I was constantly being put on hold and nobody came back to follow up. On the other hand, the contractors were timely and they responded fast. There was not a lot of flexibility when it came to setting the time but they did a fantastic job and it was professional. Since then, the air conditioner has been working fine. Every time I called them and requested for help, somebody was out to solve the problems and I didn’t have to do anything about it as well as the cost. AHS gives me peace of mind. If you need something big for your house, someone's gonna get there and there's somebody who can have it taken care of. You don’t have to come up with the cash out of pocket.

Submitting claims online to American Home Shield is great. I would just go to the website and put in a repair request. However, it's a disaster if I ever try to call them. They don't ever accept the phone and I'd be on hold for hours. If I have a question about coverage and I need to talk to somebody, then that's a problem. I wish they'd answer the phone and have more knowledgeable representatives. So, when I understand the issue and understand if it's covered or not, then it's easy to do it online.
Most of the claims I had went smooth and the contractors were all good. There was a time when had a problem with a vent fan for the stove. The vent fan was mounted on the roof and the first several companies that came out wouldn't go up on the roof. It took a while to find a contractor that could do it but we got it all worked out. In the most recent claim, Amtech Services came out for my refrigerator that wasn't cooling. The contractor came in, figured out what it was, replaced some part, and everything started working again. It took him 30-45 minutes which was very quick. Overall, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

I submit claims with American Home Shield online but there have been times when I've had to make phone calls and they've been a little bit difficult. But for the most part, it's been fine. I put in a claim with them when my tenant told me that the air conditioning was not working. The tech came and took a look at it. He was the best contractor that I've ever had. He knew what he was doing and he was excellent. I had an issue with the one prior that who never showed up and kept me waiting for hours. I also have another apartment that I have a warranty on and it was a nightmare. I couldn't get the heating system fixed and the techs never got back to me. I had to rebate my tenants a couple thousand dollars because the heat wasn't working properly. That was terrible and I was very upset. But the last two experiences I had were excellent. The techs were diligent, prompt and on time.

Sometimes they're busy but it's better to call them. Consolidated Mechanical, the contractor that AHS sent, helped a lot. They tried to come on time and they were very friendly. They cleaned some parts of the upper unit and provided some maintenance outside. Since they came out for the service, the AC has been working well.

My washing machine stopped running, so I called American Home Shield and it took them a week to send somebody out. The claim was sent through Sears and a tech from A&E came out. He got the machine running and asked if I can do half loads, lightweight loads, and low-spin cycle. He also said that I might be able to get the machine working through for another week and hopefully, by then, AHS would have the parts and they would have somebody out to fix it. The machine worked for about three days, then it quit working. AHS sent somebody out to put the part in, but the machine still didn’t work right. It ran for three loads then quit, so I called AHS and they sent somebody else out.
I told the tech that the machine was making noises. He was ready to pack things up, then he said that he was gonna run one last test. After running the test, he said that the machine needed an actuator and a control board, although he said, for the longest time through all his series of tests, that the machine never showed that there was anything wrong with the control board. The parts were ordered and sent to the house and another tech was also sent out to install the parts. At first, one of the parts arrived and, in the scheduling department, they thought that all the parts had arrived and they moved my appointment up to three days without calling me, but I managed to stop them from sending somebody out when all the parts hadn’t arrived yet.
The appointment pushed out from Friday to the next Tuesday. The tech showed up and put in the actuator. He ran a bunch of diagnostics and said that he was not getting any codes to say that the control board was bad, so he couldn’t install it. The machine is running now, so American Home Shield won’t send anybody out again, although it’s still not working right and there is an issue with the control board. Yesterday, the machine was trying to spin while it was still full of water. The control board was telling the wrong things to activate at the wrong time. The control board was ordered, but the other tech didn’t bother to put it in and he wouldn’t listen to me. He said that it was not showing an error code and that he was not allowed to put it in. The techs that have come out have all come from different offices and they can’t pull up what had been looked at. They have to redo the tests all over again for some reason.
My experience with American Home Shield has been great, except for the problem I had with one of the contractors. Calling in a claim has always been a simple process, although I end up being on hold for half an hour to 45 minutes. If I do it online, I can’t talk to somebody and it doesn’t give me all the options as to what needs to be done. We also had a plumbing issue when my water heater went out and both of my bathtub faucets started leaking. Although the water was still on, it wasn't working right and I called AHS. However, that night, it quit completely, so when I called back, they asked what we were looking at as far as the timeline went and I said that we sent the claim already to one company.
I also told them about the faucet and they said that it was all one claim. When they sent the contract over to another company, they did it faster, but they ended up not transferring the faucets. When I called AHS back, they said that it should have been on all one claim. It took them four weeks to get it figured out not to bill me for the second one.

The springs that operate off of the motor to roll the door up and down, one of them had broken, and it needed to be replaced. I called American Home Shield and their rep asked me if I wanted to pay the upfront fee right then or wait until after the service has been completed. I always tell them, “I want to wait till after it’s completed.” They charge our service fee on that. I sign off on the invoice when it’s completed and the company that they sent out sends the invoice to American Home Shield, and we never have to get involved in that part of payment at all.
Their reps are very helpful and are good with getting somebody out here. I did have an issue on the previous call though. The refrigerator broke down on a Friday, which always happens, and the service people that they called couldn’t get out here until Tuesday or Wednesday the following week. I called them back and they did contact another repairman who came out the next day but the parts had to be ordered. It still took a couple of days but that’s standard. There isn’t much they can do to speed up a repair person.
The contractors that they send out are professional. They identify themselves and usually have the proper things that they need to complete the job. They will tell you about the condition of the appliance that you have. There is no pressure to do anything more or less. When we had an issue with an air conditioner, we had to pay for Freon to have it put in. That was not covered by our contract and they were right upfront with it, showed us what was in the contract, and we checked it with ours. Everything is working fine now. When the contractors come out, they'd say, “If you have any problems with it, you got any problems, just give us a call.” I’ve never had to do that and I would not want to be given another service fee. But American Home Shield said that if they have to come back on the same problem within 30 days, there will not be another charge. So, I’m very pleased with that.
The previous plan we had that we stayed with when we bought the house did not cover my refrigerator, washer and dryer because they weren't there originally. It would be an additional fee. So, when I switched to American Home Shield, part of the reason is that I could exclude a couple of things that I really couldn’t care about and add my refrigerator, washer and dryer. You have the option to cover only your major appliances, if that’s what you so desire. Something I had never known. I like the idea that I can pick the things that I want covered and what I pay is based on how you do that, and the service fee and annual fee are adjusted accordingly.

We just moved into a new house and a lot of surprises came up. There were a lot of pool incidents and there was also a plumbing incident. So, I’ve had several claims with American Home Shield. I submitted the claims online and their site was good. However, personally calling them was not so good. I had questions I wanted to ask and I wanted to interact with them personally, but nobody seems to answer the phone. It takes forever and the waiting is not good.
The gentleman that came most recently addressed the plumbing issue and checked the flow. There was a backup with the flow, pertaining to the downstairs bathroom. although it cleared itself, so he didn’t have to do anything. He also found an issue with the toilet itself and resolved that. The bolts were kinda worn and the toilet was kinda shaky, so he replaced them as well as the wax ring and everything has been working good since then.
I don’t completely downplay American Home Shield, but I don’t plan on renewing next year. I’ve already dealt with home warranty providers and my previous home warranty was with First America, but I never had issues with them, so I plan to go back to them. I feel that every claim that I put in with American Home Shield is like patchwork. Anything that would require dollar signs is never covered. My pool is supposed to be fully covered and I’ve had incidents where they came out already, but they told me that it is not covered. They don't give me details as to what is covered versus what isn’t, and those are the issues that I’m dealing with.
I also don’t like their customer service as far as calling them. I had a claim with the pool and they sent out a technician. They were using this company and I requested to use them again because the tech already knew the standard with my pool. The person came out for a relay issue with the control panel for my pool, the electrical, and he was able to resolve the problem with no problem. His expertise, as well as his mannerism, was great and I wanted to use him again. However, AHS couldn’t honor that and I couldn’t use him again. They said that the company didn't come up and that they had to go with whatever was on their list. They gave me the two options to use that were on their list. It was kinda weird and the communication wasn’t there.
The technicians have all fulfilled their jobs and I wouldn’t downplay them in any way. I just had some issues with AHS. For example, if I would’ve known ahead of time that a technician would come out, I would have to pay a deductible only for them to tell me it’s not covered and that could have been easily circumvented over the phone versus wasting money and time for somebody to come out. AHS was recommended to our realtor when we purchased this home, so they were the ones that opted to get them. If it was up to me, I would have chosen who I was used to. Still, my claims with AHS were satisfied.

Usually, I got an email saying that the repair has been scheduled, then I got a call from the contractor to schedule the service call, which was typically the next day. When the contractors came out, the communication and interaction I had with them were excellent and very friendly. They looked at the problem and fixed the problem, and that made me happy. Each contractor is different because it’s a different company. But the contractors ave been very courteous, considerate, and quiet in getting the work done. They focused on the work and got it done, and they were very friendly in explaining options.
We had a previous incident with a refrigerator cooling problem and the contractor gave me options in fixing a slide that was also broken but wasn’t covered by the AHS warranty. They were very informative in sharing information and options that were outside of the item that needed to be repaired. I've got three teenage and older boys and the washer is a required item in the household, and everything has been operating perfectly since the repair. Their price did go up as far as what you pay the person who comes out. It used to be 75, now it’s 100. And now, you no longer pay them directly. American Home Shield takes it directly out of your account after the service has been performed.
We had a person that they had assigned to come out for our washer and we weren’t really pleased with him. They tried to find somebody to be there on weekend and those people never responded. Air Temp was the first available. The guy came in time and I was not at home. My daughter showed him and he said they had to order the part.
Their technicians were good, but their office people was kind of knuckleheads, especially one lady. She was having very indifferent attitude. We have kids at home and I have an elderly person visiting us and there’s no way, we have to get him out of there. I made a request to expedite the service and that one lady said it would be done when it is done. There's no way some part will take about seven days. She said it’s about two weeks, excluding holiday and weekend. That was not believable. My AC was not built in Mars. She was some character. Every time I called, I asked for her supervisor number and she said she didn’t have any supervisor. I told her to give me anybody and she gave me the number of some office manager. I left about 202 messages and that wonderful person never called back.
Later on, there was another lady, named Lori. She was pleasant and sweet. She apologized and suggested I call AHS and have them expedite something and they may call the manufacturer,. Six days have gone already, but at least her customer service was better than it was. She did not do much, but at least her respect level was better than before. Eventually, the part came in and after the reappointment was made they came in and fixed it. Things started going okay so far.
I have no problem at all with Home Shield. I used to be with them long before, when I was in town hall about 10 years before and then I had used other company in between and they were nothing but deception. I was stuck with them three years. We normally call to file claims with American Home Shield and we usually get a hold of somebody, but sometimes we don't if it's late at night. Our experience with the contractors depends on the contractor. We've had two contractors come out and AHS couldn't control them. One time, I ruined four tiles in my basement because they got dropped on. AHS sent out a contractor but they took forever to come out and they didn't like to deal with the insurance. The tech messed up and didn't get the job done, and I had to go back to fix it. At another time, we had a pipe that leaked, but the contractor didn't do the job all the way and I had to do it myself because the tech didn't do it right. My carpet got flooded and it was such a mess. AHS got the plumber to fix my pipe, but my homeowner's insurance had my carpet fixed. But what sucks about that is that my personal mortgage went up.
The good thing, though, was that the contractor that AHS used filled out an affidavit for me because I was charged $50 every time the main valve was shut off. So, I couldn't save much. When we bought the house, we had no idea where the shut-off valve was. It was not in the sidewalk on the other side, but it was smack in the middle of my front yard. Also, the sewage cost was doubled based on my water bill. So, my bill was $400. Other than that, AHS has been great and they got the job done. In fact, I told a buddy that we have a warranty with AHS.

AHS sent a company out and stated the people who install the unit didn't install it correctly. So AHS denied the claim. AHS stated would I like a second opinion and I stated yes. They came out and I never heard back from AHS after 48 hrs which they were to contact me in this time frame. I received a quote of price to fix from first company and had them come and issue the compressor. The tech was also going to fix the install issue in the breaker box, but found out he made a mistake and stated he would contact AHS and he made a mistake on the first diagnostic so the compressor would be cover.
Remind you I have free lifetime parts on the units just need labor cover. AHS stated they will not cover due to what the second opinion tech stated, which I still have no idea what he stated 'cause I never heard from AHS. This is not the good part. If AHS who had cover the compressor which have lifetime warrant from Goodman. I still would be out about $2000 due to they don't cover for Freon. What the purpose of having a warrant for a/c if you still out of $2000. I'm finish with AHS. Closing my account after 20 years of service to them, and this how you get treated. Sep. 17 placed a call to fix my AC which is still under manufacturer warranty. AHS contracted Perry Mechanical to fix the problem. He suspected a coolant leak from a valve cap. He changed the cap and charged me $165 for 3 pounds of coolant (65-10) per pound. He refused to acknowledge the warranty, which was unusual to me. I contacted AHS and was told I shouldn't be paying for the coolant. The problem was NOT fixed and the tech never bothered to see if it was. A second ticket was submitted and THE tech was able to fix the problem but at cost of another $220 for coolant.
AHS promised to work with Perry Mechanical on getting ME A refund. Well it has been a month and only partial refund. AHS personnel has become less cooperative since, one them telling ME the $165 is for initial call, which I failed to understand and he refused to let me talk to someone else, another one told me to reach out to Perry myself. Hello... I am your client and for a quite some time. If Perry was my direct contractor I would have made sure warranty was honored. On Facebook the rep stopped answering altogether. What kind of service is this. I must've spent hours on the phone. I have a life to live you know. This is not fair.

Super disappointed, I used to really be happy with my warranty from AHS but I guess they were bought out by another company and ever since the service has gone way down. They sent out Miller Appliance (F rated with the BBB and Angie's List) who was 2.5 hours late for the install appointment, no call. The tech finally showed up (at 7PM??!!) in an Amazon Delivery shirt so I can only assume this is his second job. Fixed the electronic board on the washer and the ice/water dispenser in the fridge and now the dispenser is dripping water down the side and the washer is pouring water all over the floor every time it's used which it has never done before in ten years. Basically he was in a hurry and didn't get either put back together right. He finally left at 8:30pm at night.
Amber (the owner of Miller) is so rude and obnoxious that it is impossible to have a normal conversation with her. She screams over me and won't let me get a word in. Called me a liar and said I owed her an apology because I complained about the faulty repair??!! Then transferred service to Appliance Network (also F rated with the BBB and Angie's List) who was almost as rude as Miller. He said if I wasn't nice he would just transfer me to another company. He then said, "you're rude, bye!" and hung up.
AHS does not care, the 888 number goes unanswered for a MINIMUM of 30 minutes if not more. Chat was ok but she just wanted to get me done and out of the queue. She really didn't want to help. Still waiting on yet another company to show up this Thursday. A total of 3 weeks now without a washer and I have two kids. I'm a single mom, I have a warranty so I don't have to stress about these things but it seems like AHS and the "bottom of the barrel" contractors they hire just cause it. I'm better off without it. :(

My water heater broke the day I moved into my new condo and initially I was grateful that my realtor purchased a plan with American Home Shield. After submitting an initial claim and speaking with AHS, they selected a plumber who would not service my home. By the time they heard back from that plumber and found a few plumber, 3 days had passed. Eventually the new plumber came and determined, like my plumber, that the water heater was leaking and broken. They submitted the report to American Home Shield. 7 days passed before any action was taken. During that 7 day period, when I called, I needed wait on hold for over 40 minutes each time, I was told it was with the approval department and needed to wait for their determination. After 7 days, I was told they actually needed more information from the plumber, while the plumber told me, they were waiting on AHS.
After 9 days, I was told that the water heater had been ordered but would take another 5 days to be shipped to the plumber. At that point, I could reach out to the plumber to install the new water heater. In total it will be over 2 weeks without hot water (2 weeks of not being able to take a warm shower would leave you upset too). While working with vendors may take time, waiting on hold for over 40 minutes each time you call combined with a system that does not provide updates, is a horrible customer experience. I will not be renewing my plan after my contract is up. I recommend finding a different provider.

Here are the facts: Clothes washer went out and we placed a service order on August 27th. Technician determined that machine was a complete loss. Home Shield sends second technician to verify, and they do in fact verify that the machine can't be repaired. We order a new machine on September 26th and are told it would take 5-7 days for delivery. October 8th was 7 business days. We had heard nothing about the delivery, so we called American Home Shield. They advised us that it would be another two weeks - Oct 23rd!
The math isn't hard...two months without the clothes washer that we paid to have covered under the American Home Shield warranty. If the company's communication was any better, it would help, but we received nothing but delays, broken promises and 45-minute hold times. With the time I've spent away from my work, I could have bought a new machine, not had the aggravation and saved on the warranty premium. That's right...premium. This is insurance and my next call is to my State Insurance Commission.

We have a gas leak in our pipes somewhere and I requested a service call on Friday October 6, 2018 and a plumber wasn't able to come out until Monday October 8, 2018. When they finally came out to check, some repairs were made but the leak was still not fixed. The leak must be somewhere in the walls but it can't be located at this time. Every time I call AHS I am on hold for 20+ minutes. I have already called twice this morning and the first time I was on hold or 21 minutes to only have someone pick up my call then hang up.
Now I have been sitting on hold for 16 minutes and nobody has picked up my call. This is ridiculous as I work a full time job and can't be on hold all day waiting for someone to give me an update on our request. We just bought our house and luckily the sellers paid for the 1st year premium. We will be looking for a new Home Warranty company when this contract expires. Customer service should be your number one priority and it sure doesn't seem that way. We are now going on 8 days without gas and that means 8 days of cold showers for my family. Get it together AHS!!!

First and foremost I shouldn't have to hold on for an hour every time I need to reach a company. This isn't a once in a while issue. It's every time! Consider expanding your customer service or even allowing phone callbacks. I can't be sitting here all the time waiting on someone who's gonna just tell me, "We will call you back 3-5 days," and then never call me back and then I got to hold another hour to be told same thing over and over.
Now that this complaint is out of the way let's talk about how they employed a Plumbing company that was rude and disrespectful to the customer just shy of calling me a liar when we said they were told we approved the repairs and they never came. Was told it was impossible. Only two ladies work there and neither of them took the call. Interesting since the owner is a male and that's most likely who we spoke to. Guess not so impossible after all. Then when I said hold on a moment I need to get the person on the line that spoke with him they hung up on me. Then when I called back they said, "Oh we knew you would be a problem." Actually, no. I expect a certain amount of respect.
We decided we did not want to work with this company and AHS decided not to help us find another plumber on our own and cash out. So, we did and then called to turn in receipts and I was first told, "Well we have to see if it is approved." No, you guys told us to do this we shouldn't have to go through approval process after the fact. Then I was told we will have someone return call 3-5 days (at this point not even collecting my receipts) and no call two weeks later. Now I am on hold again for an hour... Who knows what crazy answer I'll get if I ever get anyone on the line... It's lunchtime. I don't want to die of hunger waiting by the phone for a company that doesn't like to answer calls.

Good Idea so we signed up for it and they promptly took the payment out of our account and assigned us to Sweet Mountain Air Cooling and Heating Inc. An appointment was made and Dave from Sweet MT Air never showed for the appointment. Wouldn't return our calls. Finally AHS we were reassigned to Chrispy Air and they promptly contacted us to set up an appointment but was told AHS would not pay for them for this service because our air/heating unit is on the roof.
Two days, 4.25 hours of holding on the phone with 6 different service reps, (Thomas, Paul, Trish, Won, MJ) 5 cut offs after being on hold while they were checking for us. We still have no service for the $75 we paid. I really doubt that we will ever see that $75 again. Good lesson on our part. Now I am wondering how hard it will be to get service for a major problem? Very unhappy so far. Be aware of issues and be prepared for LONG waits, CUT OFFs and lots of runarounds and no service for the money you prepay.

During a thunderstorm in August of 2018, I begin to have some electrical issues in my garage and several rooms in my house. I immediately tripped my breakers and it reset most of the issues but not all, so I called AHS and after holding over 45 minutes, over 2 day period. I was finally able to speak with a representative, who put me in contact with Riggins Electrical Company. The company was not able to provide service until Friday between 4 and 5 and when the service technician showed up he wasn't at my home for more than 15 minutes.
I was also just discharged from the ER so my neighbor was there monitoring the situation. My GFCI outlet was melted and burned out but the service technician did not change it, although my neighbor advised him to do so. He plugged in my freezer that was located in my garage and he told me that I just needed my electrical breaker reset, which he did and left. However, when I arrived home from work on the following Monday I had water and blood streaming from the freezer in my garage. It turns out that he plugged my freezer into a GFCI outlet that had blown out and melted, blowing up my freezer and causing me to lose my food.
After attempting to call AHS several times, I called the Electrical Company back who said I would have to contact AHS to get the technician to come for second service call. The representative at the Electrical Company told me the electrician did not fix the problem with the outlet because it was not listed on my initial service order. The representative from the electrical company was able to call AHS and was able to get someone on the phone less than 10 minutes we conferenced called and it was decided that a technician needed to return to fix my issues.
At the time of the call, I was told that AHS would replace my mini fridge but not my freezer which had also blown out when we attempted to find the problem with the freezer. Early the next morning, the electrician came and told me he was only coming to change out my GFCI outlet as a courtesy because it was not listed on the initial service order. I went back and forth with him and told him that was not true that I have reported all the issues to AHS the first time I called...
I had to call AHS back to inquire when they plan to reimburse me for my mini fridge and freezer. The customer service representative at AHS told me that they would have to review the recorded calls and once her supervisor comes in they would give me a call back with their findings, but they never did. I attempted to call several times after them but was left on hold for almost 2 hours once and another time my call was inadvertently dropped.
I called back and spoke with someone in the payment department and I canceled my service right away. Although I tried to call back several times after, I have never been contacted by anyone from AHS regarding my loss or the multiple letters that I have been sent or two service charges that were not properly dictated. In my opinion, I think that a AHS are scammers and lack Integrity as a company and I pray for the day that they no longer exist to take advantage of hard-working Americans!

I have had American Home Shield over 4 years now and have experience both ups and downs with this company. However, the current situation I am experiencing tops the cake!!! The average person knows that when you wash clothes they are supposed to come out clean not with spots, correct?! Well, obviously not the people at American Home Shield. I have been dealing with them fixing my washer machine for the past month. Then everyone at AHS wants to call you back or place you on hold for extended periods of time to review the notes or they never call you back. It all began at the end of August when I called in about my washer machine leaving spots on my clothes. The tech came out and identified what he thought the problem was and immediately stated, "They should replace it because it is not functioning as it should. I am going to let them know the outcome and they should be contacting you shortly."
Well, a few days went by with no call from AHS. So, I called in and then was informed the tech did not mention it needed to be replaced and that another tech would have to come out at no charge. So I contacted the tech at Appliance Connect and they informed me that they had actually spoken to someone and AHS said they did not cover damage to clothes. I then informed them that AHS stated they would need to come back out again. So that's what happened, they came out again still the same outcome. I totally understood they weren't going to cover the damage to the clothes however, I needed them to fix the problem that was occurring that was causing the damaging.
I then contacted AHS again and was informed the same thing by a very rude tech. She said that the washer was functioning properly and they did not cover damage clothing. Ummm...how is it functioning properly if you put clothes in and they come out with spots that are being caused by the washer. I asked to speak with a supervisor. Once the supervisor was on the phone she informed me she understood totally and decided to take it from there and send it up a little higher to see about getting the problem fixed and the part that was causing the spotting replaced. She was able to get the issue taken care of and informed me that someone would be contacting me the next day which was a Friday.
Well the next day never came. However, the next week did and I contacted them that following Monday afternoon since no one had called me that Friday. I called in and the young lady informed me that she didn't see all the information I was referring to and placed me on hold for at least 25 minutes only to come back to the phone and say she was able to locate it and someone would follow back up with me once they received the estimate to date from the service company. She said it would take possibly a day. Well a week passed and I contacted the service company and was informed they had already provided that information.
So, I called AHS AGAIN. This time to be informed that it was in the options department and someone would call me. Well, that was last week and here we are TODAY and no call from the options department! However, one of the representatives from AHS did call on Friday to inform me that options had called and left a message. However, I never received it and she informed me that they had a cash offer and a couple other options but they would have to tell me because she wasn't sure. She went on to tell me the cash option amount and stated to "go buy a washer and then we will reimburse you".
After all of the things, I have gone through this past month what person would just go buy a washer without any additional information about reimbursement and the long run around and wait for a company who doesn't follow through to reimburse them. She then told me to call options and provided me with the number and said they could also tell me my other options but I should take the cash out and just buy a washer. I asked how long would it take to be reimbursed. She said she didn't know but I should just do it. Ummm ma'am why would I do that without documentation and most importantly why would I just do that with a company who has given me the runaround, I have had to continually call them and follow-up, and every day it's been something different. Then the number she provided was incorrect! So I guess I will be calling again tomorrow to FOLLOW UP!
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE and WORST WARRANTY COMPANY! The last time I had an issue I stayed with this company because of the young lady who did resolve the issue. However, after this, I encourage everyone to steer clear of AHS and I will not renew my contract after this. My husband consistently asks is it fixed yet?! We have been taking our clothes to the laundromat due to this situation not being resolved wasting more money plus paying for a home warranty that isn't resolving issues!!! HORRIBLE. BUYER BEWARE!!!
Hi, Jerri. I apologize that you have has these issues with getting your clothes washer repaired. I agree, if there are spots, there is an issue. I show that most recently, the parts that are needed are showing that they are on a manufacturer's delay. A message was left for you on 10-05-2018 to offer options towards a replacement.

I have had American Home Shield for the last 7 years until today. In the past, all they did is patch the problems with my 22 year old air conditioner. I held out thinking that someday they would actually do the right thing and replace it for me as the only reason why my air conditioner even worked is because a special kickstart system was installed to make it start on its own. Because of their patch work, it cost me many hundreds of dollars in Freon charges to repair my system. Finally, this year I broke down and bought a new AC on my own with none of their so called help at all. I had them come out recently on replacing my 3 non-working ceiling fans. I thought this would be a slam dunk, but no, instead they denied coverage on all of them merely because one or more blades had broken off of my ceiling fans as after all, they were also 22 years old.
I had each of these blades ready to be put back on after fixing my motor. They said they would not cover them at all as there were missing parts that I actually had in my hands ready to fix. They cited as usual the fine print in my contract when the big print says that they cover ceiling fans. To top it all off, when cancelling today, they told me that there would be an early termination fee. I went off as I had been a customer for the last 7 years. They said since I was on auto pay that I automatically agree to them renewing my contract without my permission or signature. This is completely unacceptable as I signed nothing agreeing to a contract renewal in the first place!
Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT sign up with them as I promise that you WILL regret it later. Along the way, before they do you really dirty, they will further nickle and dime you to death stating that your system is out of code or needs to be upgraded. My hot water heater this year was covered by them to replace this year, but guess what, I paid over $650 when a brand new water heater at Lowe's is around $400. Turn around and walk away, this company is horrible and only cares about the money they are bringing in and NOT about doing the innocent consumer any favors!!!

One time, there was no air coming out of our ducting so I called American Home Shield. However, it took a while for them to send somebody out because it was on a weekend. I explained to them that I had a terminal patient here that could not deal with the heat. He was on oxygen and we needed someone right away but it still took them a couple of days to get someone out here. When they got someone out here, they ended up putting in a temporary emergency blower motor which we didn't know at the time.
A week later, no air was coming out again, so we called back. AHS sent someone else completely and they were the ones who told us that it was just a temporary motor and that it wasn't supposed to last a long time. They were very thorough and they did a very great job and we haven't had any issues at all with our air conditioning since. The guy told us when he was working and checking out the system that there was a crack and because they were there for the air conditioning, they couldn't do anything about it yet. Sure enough, the pilot light on the furnace went out, so we got someone who's to fix that.
Another thing is my girlfriend was the one who referred me to AHS and we were supposed to be getting a $25 gift card but neither one ever received it. She called about it and AHS gave her a big old telephone runaround saying that they would just call back in a few days. She was so frustrated that she never called back. Though our relationship started out rocky, having AHS' warranty has been a pretty positive experience.

I had to call American Shield six weeks ago because my air conditioning was not working. The first time I called to submit the claim, everybody was courteous and nice. The second time, I decided to do it online, and it was even quicker. The contractor came out and it took them very little time because the man determined my thermostat was not working so he replaced it. Three and a half weeks after, the same thing happened and the same person came again. He said the thermostat was again damaged so he replaced it and it has been working ever since. The contractors were very good and it was great dealing with them. They were very flexible. I had to travel outside the country on our first claim, so they gave me an appointment exactly the day after we came back which was what I requested. Then right before coming, they called me and let me know they were on the way. It was excellent.
We bought the house not even a year ago and this insurance was paid by the former owners. We're thinking about extending it when it expires at the end of February because we like it. I've used AHS two times for the same thing. It has been a great experience so far and the price is unbelievable. People should give them a try.

I filed two appliances on the same claim with American Home Shield. One was for an ice maker mechanism on a refrigerator and the other, a gas range that had a faulty oven switch that when the oven heated up, it would cause the light to flicker. The contractor misdiagnosed it the first time as the control unit in the back of the range. They changed it out and the condition didn’t change. They also wanted to change a switch, but when they tried to take the range apart, they were twisting the screws off to access the switch. So, they finally said that it’s not repairable and they recommended paying us for a range. The ice maker was repairable though so they got the parts and repaired that.
We got the same repair person for both items. He was knowledgeable, courteous and on time as far as setting the appointments and being there, and he was able to fix the problem within a very reasonable time frame. Everything’s been fine since then. So far, we’ve purchased the range, but we still have not received a remuneration from them. We spoke with them two weeks ago and they indicated there was no problem as far as the receipts that were submitted and that it had been processed and that payment was on its way. Other than, I have no complaints.

I just purchased this home that was built in 1994 and there weren’t a lot of things wrong in it. I also had never used American Home Shield until I had a leak under the sink. The guy they sent out looked under my sink and said that I needed a basket. He made a phone call and then he told me that it wasn’t covered, but I figured that I had to do it because of the leak. But I was very upset because it was said to be a secondary effect from the leak and it cost me 225 bucks for a little basket that cost 50 bucks at Home Depot. I’ve been ripped off.
The Advance Plumbing company was outrageous and I was very disappointed with AHS. They should put that secondary condition in their contract and explain what it meant because I didn’t know that it was a secondary thing. I also called them about it and I told them that I wouldn’t be calling them unless it was an emergency. I’m already paying AHS $600 and something a year including my roof and that’s just not fair. I've been with American Home Shield for some years and warranty-wise, I'm pleased with them. I usually call them when I submit claims and the customer service people are very courteous. They seem to be willing to listen extensively so they can get a great understanding of what I'm calling about. Additionally, they will come back and give me an understanding of what they think I'm saying to make sure they have the correct information. That makes me feel as if they're listening and that what I'm saying really matters to them. I also file claims online and it's more efficient than calling, but it depends on where I am in my ability to get to the Internet.
However, when I filed a claim with our air conditioning, I had an issue with scheduling where I had to call the contractor after Home Shield told me that the contractor would get in touch with me. I waited two days but even on the third day, I did not receive a call from the contractor. That was a little disappointing because I lost two days waiting. The person who came out was a very professional gentleman, though. He was also very friendly and thorough, and willing to do whatever he could do to resolve the issue as expediently as he could. The most recent experience I've had with American Home Shield has been the dryer and it’s still isn’t fixed. I tried calling back but I didn’t wanna use the automated machine. I don’t like it because I had a bad experience once wherein I had a garage door repair and when the guy came out, it turns out it wasn’t covered. If it wasn’t covered from the beginning, AHS shouldn't have let the contractor come out here but they did and I got charged with a 100 bucks. I wanted to use an actual person but I was on hold for over 15 minutes so I had to hang up. I still haven’t heard back from them.
My wife had to put the clothes on two cycles in order to dry them so I’m using electricity twice as much as I should. It’s annoying that the dryer is not working. They’ve come out three times. The first time, a guy misdiagnosed it. He said it was the vent system in the back so he put a new vent in there and said, “Okay, we’ll give it a shot.” Of course you can’t really try it until you put wet clothes in there to dry. So then they didn’t dry, I called AHS again and they sent a different company out and he said, “Oh yeah, it’s the timer.”
So the contractor ordered the part, he put a new timer in and he left. After that, the dryer still has to go twice of it. I’ve said from the beginning, it’s the heating element or another part because it’s one of those things that you put it on and when it’s all dry it automatically senses it. The sensor must be bad and even on the time side, it’s still not working because I had to put it twice. I put it for 30 minutes or 60 minutes and it still doesn’t dry completely, and I have to put it on again. So it must be the heater that’s bad. Maybe the heater after it gets hot stops working and that’s what’s happening. The other ones fixed some electrical stuff for me but it wasn’t working. American Home Shield works as long as you don’t use the automated system and you just have to be vigilant as far as scheduling appointments to make sure that the item is covered completely.

I have two homes connected with American Home Shield and I called them in August so they can do work on it. One of my homes is in Ridgecrest and the little pipe under the sink started leaking. I asked American Home Shield to repair the pipe and paid my fees. The guy that came over there made the situation much worse. Instead of repairing the pipe in 15 minutes, he made it four hours and sealed the water. I had people in the house and he told them to not use the water right away and wait for several hours. I didn't understand that because in my other home, I just had the same repair done and it only took the guy 15 minutes, and we were able to use the sink the same day.
The people in the Ridgecrest house called me and said that they were brushing their teeth and using the sink for the first time because the guy took so long that they didn't use the sink anymore that day. The next morning, they turned the water on and water started gushing all under the pipes. It happened on a weekend so they had to wait for a whole weekend in order to get work down for Monday. I called the contractor and spoke to someone in hopes of getting someone else from their company to come and repair it. The supervisor got very nasty and told me that they would see what they could do, instead of saying an apology and then sending someone out. They sent somebody and he ended up stopping the sink up, plus the leak was still there.
After all of that, we called back over and over and over, and it took them about 10 days to get it done. I had to keep calling back and forth on that company, asking them when they were coming out because I have two tenants in this house and they were sharing a bathroom at that point. When they did come, they made a lie and talked about they didn't wanna come anymore. I asked American Home Shield for another company prior to that because they were giving all these excuses. It was a total disaster.
I've also had problems with the contractors taking a long time to come or not showing up in my Compton house. There was one company not even answering their phone, and American Home Shield would call them if they were supposed to come in. They would say that they'd send out somebody, and put you on the list. I gotta pay $75 for them to come out. When they come out, instead of fixing the problem, they wold say that they need to call for authorization. That takes a few more days, but I already paid for the service. I really don't want American Home Shield anymore. I'm not happy with their service at all.
I also asked American Home Shield who takes care of the contractors they sent out if a customer reports a problem with that company. They told me that they report it over to the contractor relations. So I asked them to make sure that contract relations knows about the situations that I'm complaining on. They agreed to do that, but when I called them back to ask if they reported it, they said they don't see anything reported. I would not recommend anybody to American Home Shield.
Hello, Karen. I really hate to hear that it took all of that to resolve the plumbing issues at your rental property. A Social Media team member will contact you to discuss your concerns.

The contractors that came to fix our leaky bath tub were also the ones that came out before, so they’re professional and nice people. They've always been great. I filed the claim with American Home Shield and the online process works well.

The claim for the air unit was done prior to us buying the condo, and the previous owner transferred it over to us. The contractor was excellent and now everything seems to be fine. AHS sent some stuff to our address, but it was returned for whatever reason. They resent it, so they were very good at it.

Overall, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. When my air conditioner has a blockage in the drain pipe, I submitted my claim online and it was easy to do it. Their contractor, Agape AC and Refrigeration Services called me within 24 hours but it took a little longer for them to come out till I was available. They came and fixed it, but it started leaking again in a little over a month. There was a couple of blockages I guess. They came back, but this time, it took them within a couple of days. They fixed the air conditioner and everything seems to be working fine now. They even took pictures and showed me what was wrong. It was helpful.

Having the warranty is very valuable and it's worth the peace of mind to have it. I've only been with American Home Shield since June and I've had three service calls. One of those calls was an easy fix. But with the microwave, a part had gone out and had I not had American Home Shield, I would have had to pay for service call and the parts. It probably would have cost me more money than it did. I was also an American Home Shield member many years ago, back when I was a homeowner in East Virginia. When we moved into the home that we live in now, we were with another warranty company for a year. It was part of the thing that was set up when we bought the home. But I wasn't as pleased with their service as I was with American Home Shield previously. That was why I came back to American Home Shield.
I usually file claims online and it is very quick. The website's great and it's very user-friendly. The claim that I'm having now is for the dishwasher. It wasn't powering on at all. It was working at one point during the day earlier in the week and then, about 45 minutes later, I checked it and it was not running. Ever since then, it hasn't turned back on. I checked the breakers and everything was okay. The contractor was willing to come out the next day but they haven't been out yet because of scheduling on my end. Even the contractors I've had before were usually very quick to respond. I've had good interactions with them and they diagnosed the issue quickly and effectively.

Recently I filed a claim with AHS for my washer. Once I got online, I opened up my own account, put a claim and everything was handled after that. There was a little problem though. What happened was, the first company that came that checked out the appliance didn’t tell me that they weren’t gonna do it. They ended up sending another company but that was the only problem. I didn’t know what was going on until the next week. The final contractor that came in told me what was going on. Once he got the part, he came in and installed it, and everything is working fine right now. American Home Shield took care of everything good and I would recommend them.

The whole front of the dishwasher was leaking and the soap dispenser was not working. I did the claim on the computer and I was able to get it easily. Then we were contacted by the contractor soon after. He made arrangements, came out and fixed it. He was very professional, nice and courteous too. But we actually have an issue and we're getting ready to call again. The soap dispenser is messing up again. It's no longer leaking on the floor but the soap dispenser is not opening. Still, I’ll recommend American Home Shield. We got very prompt service and everything was as it was agreed upon in our contract. We paid the down payment and when the guy came out, we didn’t have to pay anything extra. It was an absolutely excellent experience all the way around.

Our sump pump was pumping water under the house like crazy so we thought we had a leak. The plumber that was sent by American Home Shield was very good and knowledgeable. He inspected everything carefully and it turned out it wasn't a leak. We were over-watering the yard and it was draining down into the bottom of the house, and out the sump pump. He told us what to do to correct it. So, I turned the time on the front yard watering down and the problem was solved. I'm pleased with everything, so far.

Go and get American Home Shield. They do good service. I went online to submit a claim for my oven that doesn't work. American Home Shield sent someone out to try to fix it and then the technician said they have no parts. When the parts came in, he came back again but he couldn't fix it. So they put in a claim to send me a new oven. The oven came and TG Repair was sent out to install it. TG has been good and all went well.

I needed our doorbell fixed and the contractor was quick, conscientious, and quiet. He left everything clean and our doorbell has been perfect since. My experience was great and I easily filed the claim with AHS online. I was happy. The last one I had was not awesome and I canceled the call. Yesterday, I had a question about a contractor who had not contacted me and I was on hold and heard awful, annoying, and want to make you punch something music for 20 minutes, then I got disconnected. Overall, there could be some improvements.

It’s pretty easy submitting claims with American Home Shield. I just make a phone call and my husband likes to do it online. We most recently had one for the hot water heater and the guys who came to fix it were really efficient. They called ahead and it was nice to know who was showing up. Also, they were courteous and they worked fast. But we had a second opinion because it was kind of difficult with AHS to figure out. At first, they didn't want to fix the heater and it was clear in our policy that it was covered. There was a confusion on the interpretation and it was the person I got on the phone. They kind of disputed everything and that was a bit frustrating.
We had the second opinion and AHS agreed to fix it. It took four or five days after the first plumbers for the second to come but it was done in one day. And I've had other interactions with their reps on the phone and the person was very nice and helpful. Also, we’ve saved money on things that were broken and things that happened. Being homeowners, it felt nice to have the warranty.

Eventually, they fixed the problem. They were nice about it, and I would definitely use them again. I've been with American Home Shield for four years now and it's been great so far. They’ve been able to take care of the issues that we’ve had. I recommended them.

My bill was really high. I wanted to get it down and filed a claim with AHS over the phone for my AC. The contractor who came over was great and his knowledge was great. It turned out all I needed to do was change filters. He said not to worry about the allergen filters because it was not letting the air through which was making my air conditioner work harder. By having the flat filters, the air was able to filter through and bring the cost down. For a few dollars, I was able to buy some filters and my bill went down $70 last month. So even though I had to pay the service call, which was quite expensive, it balanced out. It has saved me money so it was a win-win.

We had a plumbing leak. It was from where our sink line was, and it was dripping through a vent in the basement. We didn't know what that was - if it was condensation or what, but we thought we needed someone to be out here immediately. At first, American Home Shield put us in touch with Crown Plumbing but they were booked. AHS told us they couldn't get anyone else out until Monday and we said that was not acceptable. We were having dripping water from one floor to another and we couldn’t wait three days to have someone come out. Therefore, even though we have this service, we had to go ahead and get a plumber and just pay the full thing. I was not pleased.
Another time, we had to have someone come out for a dishwasher and a microwave. AHS had this company called Aurora Plumbing come out, and those guys were wretched. They came out three times for the same thing and made it worse than it was initially. So we told AHS that they shouldn't have them on their list at all. The other fellow that they recommended was awesome. His name was Jessie and he was knowledgeable and fixed the appliance in no time. Another issue we had was that sometimes we are on the phone for a very long time and it says that we can set up the claim online. However, when we have a leak, we don't wanna set it up online. We don't wanna wait and hear back in two hours from somebody cause we want it dealt with now. So, as a whole, I’ve been happy with what AHS has done. Still, I would tell everyone that whoever American Home Shield recommends, they should look them up first and see what kind of reviews they’ve gotten.

American Home Shield sent out a guy to work on the hot water heater leak. We have twin tanks and he said that things were off kilter, which made one of the tanks do most of the work and not the other. He made some adjustments and fixed the issue. However, the issue happened again. We are remodeling our home right now and when I went down to the basement and did an inspection, I noticed the hot water heater leaking. This was also fixed. American Home Shield took care of things promptly.

I called American Home Shield in August because my air conditioner in the attic was leaking and what I said when I called was, "My air conditioning is leaking." However, the person on the other end only heard, "is leaking," and they sent out a plumber. I called back to say that it was my air conditioning and that I didn't need a plumber. They told me to just let the plumber come out and the plumber will then transfer the claim to an air conditioning person. The plumber came out and he was here for 30 seconds. He looked and said that it was my air conditioner and that he had to transfer the claim. AHS transferred it and I called up, and they called me back saying that there would be another couple of days. It took four days for an air conditioning person out to my house. I told them that I would not gonna be charged for a second service call and they said no because it was a transfer. That was where the nightmare began.
They took the initial $75 fee, and then I continued to keep getting bills saying I'm past due for the additional $75, and I was not really happy about that. Their customer service department was worse. I literally was in tears the last time I called because I was getting notices saying, "It's 30 days past due. Credit, this, that…" I thought I had taken care of it earlier, which, apparently wasn't taken care of. It was in the note that said it was a transfer. The rep put me on hold forever, came back and told me that they have to review the call where I was told it was going to be a transfer and I would not have to pay a second fee. That was when I blew up and I almost had a nervous breakdown.
I hung up, called back, and I started pushing until I finally got somebody who was able to help me. The rep gave me the inside scoop of how to get ahold of somebody so I don't have to wait forever. She told me to push the Spanish line because there was never any wait. She was the last person I talked to who was absolutely wonderful. She gave me her name, an activity log number and everything saying she was filling out a form that the fee needed to be removed. I haven't gotten any notices lately, so I'm hoping it was taken care of.
Two years ago, I was without air conditioning and it took five different services. I paid for one on my own and they still couldn't figure it out. I had a ladder going up into my crawlspace from my attic and whenever the air conditioning would shut off, I would hit the air conditioner unit and it would kick back on. I told them that it was a loose connection but nobody believed me. The fifth person finally figured it out and said that I was right.
When it takes four different people to come out and the fifth one finally figures it out, it's not acceptable. I've been without air conditioning for three weeks and I have kids. I had fans going, windows open, it was unbearable. If they couldn't get somebody in their Rolodex, they need to reach to an outside company and get this taken care of. But American Home Shield only charged me one service fee for all those people and I didn't have the service fee issue back then.
One positive for American Home Shield was when my garbage disposal went out and they replaced it really fast and were pleasant about that. However, to get through to anybody is a nightmare and when I get through, it's a third world country call center and they do not understand English. When I asked to speak to somebody that can understand English a little better, they put me on hold for 45 minutes, then they hung up on me. It was not cool at all. I haven't had any problems with the people they have sent, it's just dealing directly with American Home Shield and who they have for customer service is where their issue lies.

My dishwasher wasn't cleaning the dishes, as well as my dryer hasn’t been drying. I called AHS to submit a claim and it was a seamless process. The reps were courteous. The call was straightforward and I haven’t had any issues at all. I called early the first morning, and the tech called me immediately the very next morning and told me his availability was later that evening. He was responsive. But it didn’t work with my schedule, so he didn’t come until the day after. But still, a two-day turnaround was impressive. He was knowledgeable, prompt and he followed up. He fixed the dryer. He was also able to fix the dishwasher temporarily but now, it's back to the same problem. But I didn't call again. It's time to get a new dishwasher because this has been 14 years old.
Having a home warranty gives me that financial security that if anything ever goes wrong with my appliance, I can try to get it repaired. A lot of my friends are very cautious when it comes to home warranties, especially with the appliances because of past, negative experiences with other companies. But with any opportunity I have, I always raved about American Home Shield because I didn’t have anything but good experience. I haven’t used AHS that often, but when I had to, it has always been a painless process.

I have spent over 2 weeks attempting to get a response about fixing my ice maker in my refrigerator. The technician submitted his diagnosis about how it was unable to be repaired and I called for almost a week with no response from American Home Shield. Finally I'm told they would not cover due to Samsung designing the refrigerator poorly. They want to charge me an additional service fee to have another tech come out all while I'm without even a repair option. The first attempt to have a tech show up on a Saturday they never showed up or called and ruined our whole day. I called another company, gave them the model number and they are having someone come out with the parts in 2 days to fix it. American Home Shield has been one of the worst experiences I've ever had dealing with a company. Thanks for nothing and stealing money.

I have been with AHS for over three years now. Every single time it has been disappointing. Cheapest parts used which fail repeatedly as soon as out of 60 days warranty. Extreme issues with communication, looong waits to talk to a customer service rep. It takes multiple calls to resolve one issue. They make the customer a shuttle between repair company and AHS. Just got frustrated and finally decided to leave. Not sure who has given high marks to AHS. Must be internal employees bumping up the rating artificially or paying Consumer Affairs to boost the rating. Impossible to have such high rating unless skewed.

AHS has poor customer service and does not honor their contractual agreements. Simply put, they take the money and do nothing they promise. It is so disappointing to see how poor their commitment to customer service and basic business integrity is. Poor Customer Service --> AHS does not empower their outsourced call center with the information or power to help their customers. They ask questions from a script but cannot answer any questions. After submitting a service request for our dishwasher, the service technician told us that it would require over $500 in parts the equipment to fix the dishwasher and that AHS would get back to use with the plan to fix, but they would most likely have to replace the dishwasher.
After a week of not hearing from anyone, we reached out to AHS. The first day, we were on hold for an hour (after the automated voice said we were the 1st in queue), We finally hung up assuming it was a busy time. We tried again the next day. Again, we were on hold for an hour only to be hung up on. Day three, we called again, but were able to reach someone after being on hold for 20 minutes. After the outsourced call center rep answered, she told us that AHS had already ordered us a dishwasher - without consulting with us. We asked what was ordered, when it would get here and who would be installing. After dodging the question for 5 minutes, she finally asked us to hold and hung up. (Turns out, no dishwasher was ordered. She lied.)
We called again, explained the situation and asked for a supervisor. We were then told that the supervisor did not want to talk to us. Let me say that again. The supervisor refused to get on the phone with us. They do not honor their contractual or verbal commitments --> After finally reaching a supervisor on the phone, he committed to getting back to us by the end of the day with our options for solution. He didn't call us back. Instead he sent us a link with an option to replace the dishwasher with the same defective model that was installed or get a cashout offer.
They refuse to have a conversation with us to discuss the options or address any of our other concerns. In the meantime, our beautiful Brazilian hardwood floors in the kitchen are warped and ruined. We had been loyal customers of American Home Shield for 12 years ago. We are canceling them immediately and I will tell every person I know about their shady and bad business practices. I am embarrassed that I recommended them to so many of my friends over the past 12 years.

In follow-up to a filed claim, we found the website was down all morning and early afternoon. So we made a phone call (actually, a number of calls). We were on hold 10 minutes before (we appreciate that...) we were offered a return call when a rep was available. That call came 20 minutes later; but after a 20-minute hold (!) the call was "answered" but no one was there -- like the person took a bathroom break or something and left the handset on the desk (I could hear people talking in the background). I actually waited 20 more minutes before hanging up and starting all over again. You guessed it: website still doesn't work, now been on hold 30 minutes!
Updated on 10/16/2018: American Home Shield's promise they will get back to me. Well, they never go back to me. Which is my complaint - I can't get through on the computer or the phone, when I did get through the supervisor never called me back like I was told, and their promise to evaluate their local plumbing vendor never happened.
Here's what happened. The claim was filed and they did hook us up with a local plumber. That's when everything stopped. Plumber didn't show as promised, when he did he left and said he'd be back in a few days, he didn't show up that time so we called American Home Shield asking for their help. Can't get through, yadda, yadda, yadda. You know the rest of the story. I see plenty of similar complaints here. I don't know why there are five "perfect" stars -- American Home Shield needs to DO ITS JOB to earn that rating.
