Having an American Home Shield warranty has been really, really good. It is very reasonable and makes a lot of sense. We had a refrigerator that had quit working and we submitted a claim to them online which we did easily. A contractor then came out and he was great. The issue ended up with the outlet and not the refrigerator, but he was able to fix it in one visit. After the repair, it's been perfect.

My washing machine was making a lot of noise when I tried to wash. It sounded like something was grinding together. When the guy came in, he told me what was going on. The issue ended up being something that was stripped in the motor and it was making a lot of noise. He explained it to me in detail and he answered every question I had. He told me what he was gonna do and how he had to do it. Then when he found something else that was gonna be a problem in the future, he showed it to me. He said that it was gonna cause me a problem and mess up my house. Then he went out and fixed that too. He was so honest and upfront, and he did great. I really appreciate him. This was the second time I called on American Home Shield and I've gotten great results so far. I'm pleased.

Submitting the claim for our leaky pipe was super easy. I did it online. It was a couple of days before we noticed the issue but within 24 hours of submitting the claim, somebody had contacted me. The plumbing guy who came out from Crown Services was also super professional and very quick. The garage door company was a different matter though. It took a month from when I opened the claim to when it was actually repaired. It took multiple appointments and each time, it took weeks and weeks before they could get somebody out. They called me at least six times, asking me to move the appointments around after they were scheduled. It was to the point where they called me and I said no. I wasn't moving the appointment again. Then the next day, another woman called and asked me again. It was so ridiculous. I would never use them if it wasn't for American Home Shield.

At this point, it seems like they've fixed the issue. They fixed a gear that's supposed to allow the garage door to open and close. But it still sometimes doesn't wanna open. So I don't know if they're gonna have to come back out again or what I'm gonna have to do. But it hasn't been to the point that I've had to call somebody back out. The pipe issue with the sink seems to have been fixed well though.

In the beginning of August, the pump and motherboard of my washer went out. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out 101 Repair, Inc. They did the diagnosis then they came back with the pump. But the motherboard they brought out did not work, so they had to order another one. Two weeks later, they came out again but that motherboard still didn’t work. So time went on and they finally got another one that worked. But then, the lid wasn’t a tight fit so it stopped working. They came out again and diagnosed it. Then they brought out a part for an ice maker which wasn’t what was needed for my washing machine. Finally, two weeks ago, everything was complete.

But 101 Repair ought to have parts on hand and not make you wait. I had to spend a month going back and forth to the Laundromat because of that incident and I don’t think they should be a vendor for American Home Shield anymore. Other than that, the techs who came out were nice and friendly. They were helpful as well and it wasn’t their fault that things were not ordered or didn’t work. Also, I’ve always had good luck with the contractors that AHS sent out. It was just this last time that my experience was different. But I got a new washing machine out of it for 100 bucks, which was my deductible. Plus, every time I called AHS, they were on top of my concerns.

I had a positive experience with American Home Shield and I was very satisfied. I went online and submitted a claim for the faucet that was leaking and it was easy navigating through AHS’ website. It was user-friendly. The only thing I don't like is when you first go on to initially log in. It makes you change your password every time because for some reason, it says the password is wrong although it's not. I submitted the claim on a Friday and Michael's Plumbing & Heating, the contractor was here Monday morning. It was pretty quick. The contractor discussed what was taking place. He was friendly and he took care of the problem. It's been great since then. Give AHS a try.

I bought this house 14 years ago and when I did, the people I bought it from had American Home Shield that went with the sale. When that first year was up, I've continued with it ever since. Their price has gone up when I started this. Their service call was like $50 and now it's up to $75. Also, the yearly rate has gone up. It was not quite $500 when I started and now, it’s like $600. But again, in the long run, it's worth it. Also, I've always submitted claims by phone and it has been very easy.

Several years ago, American Home Shield didn't have any program to do the maintenance for the air-conditioning and heating. It was like if somebody came in and did the maintenance and there was a problem with it, then I had to go through American Home Shield to get it fixed. That to me didn't make a whole lot of sense. They should have maintenance people who do a yearly maintenance and then, at the same time, if something has to be repaired, they can go ahead and repair it. Since the last time I talked to them about this, they were working on some kind of plan like that. I know that if you call them for a problem, say the commode's not working and you try to fix it yourself or make any changes or anything, if Home Shield sends out somebody to fix it and if they detect anything has been done to it, then it's not covered, which I can understand.

Most recently, my garbage disposal was broken and it caused a leak under my kitchen sink. The contractor was a company out of Charlotte which is three hours from where I am. They had some problems getting somebody up here. But I was extremely pleased with the plumber who came out and took care of the problem. He came out within a day or two and he said I was gonna have to have a new garbage disposal and it would have to be ordered which was no problem. That was on a Friday and he was supposed to be back the following Friday to install it. But the Friday that he was supposed to come back out, I didn't hear from anybody. So, the following Monday or Tuesday, I called the company and found out that he got sick and my order fell through the cracks.

Nothing was done with the order after he got sick. It's like somebody dropped the ball and didn't pick up what he had pending. I went almost another week having to wait for them to get back up here, which they did. And when they came back and put in the new garbage disposal, I was extremely pleased with the guy who came and took care of it. Also, the company apologized for not picking up on what the first plumber had pending. I'm gonna have to call for a plumber again and I'm gonna request the same company because the guy who came and did this work lives up here in Asheville. He would be the one taking care of everything around in this area. I'm gonna specifically ask for that same company. I've done that before and hopefully, they would send the same company.

Also, one time, I had a heating problem and they sent out somebody that I would not have back in my home. The guy who came in was very rude and very condescending. I didn't have let him do any work in my home and I called and reported that. But other than that and this last thing I had, I highly recommend AHS and I've never had a problem with not being able to get anybody out to take care of it. People understand the value of having some kind of protection for electrical or plumbing and my experience has always been very good. They get somebody out here in a reasonable period of time.

Our AC wasn’t working and the motor had burnt out. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online but I called to make sure that everything was scheduled. The claim process was okay but I didn’t hear from the vendor until I called them. If I hadn’t called, I don't know when they would have shown up or if they would have shown up. Other than that, the guy who showed up knew what had happened, he identified the issue and it was a done deal. As a matter of fact, he had the motor in the truck, and he was able to swap out the motor and get me back up and running the same day.

Some of my previous contractors weren’t on the up and up. And so, for the other items that I had people come out for, I wound up paying them X amount of dollars for supposedly filing a plan review. I'm not looking at getting my money back but my previous contractors that were sent over said, "We have to charge you an extra $500 for filing a building plan," which was not true. I found out later on, but it was water under the bridge, and I just wanted to get stuff done. That happened a couple of times over a couple of years and I wasn’t quick enough to do the research beforehand. But now, having experienced that a couple of times, I know what to expect.

They left me the information, then they left, and they came back a couple of days later and fixed it. My experience with that was good. But on some things like with my heating unit and my cooling unit, AHS took forever. My heating unit needed some part, and it took a long time for them to approve the part. Other than that, I’ve had good results also with my washer and dryer.

Submitting claims online is usually easier for me because I'm busy and for this claim, the response was quick. It was in the afternoon that I submitted that claim and American Home Shield sent me an email saying who they were contacting. Then The Lindi Corp called back the next day. They came out in a couple of days and were friendly. They got the job done quickly and they cleaned up after themselves. They didn't leave anything on the floor or any mess. They were great.

We moved into the house and assumed American Home Shield from the sellers. There was an issue with the AC unit and we had the sellers call American Home Shield to make sure the AC units were working properly and there weren’t any issues that needed any additional repairs. AHS had a company called Total Air Care based in Jacksonville come out.

It was middle of the summer and our house would not get under 78 degrees. We called American Home Shield about the issue. They sent Coastal Air Care and they said they couldn’t work on these units because there were locking caps on them and that I would need to call the original contractor. So I called American Home Shield again, but to stay in touch with American Home Shield over the phone took hours. I finally got in touch with somebody in the US and they had Total Air Care finally came out. The guy came out and he was okay. The system was not working properly and there seemed to be a blockage in the system. It needed four pounds of Freon and a new dryer. He inspected the downstairs unit and it seemed I think he knew what was going on.

Then, he pulled the breakers on the units and left us for two weeks without any AC whatsoever until they came out again to service the units. Their technician named Donald came out but he refused to get out of the vehicle because he said it was raining and he was three hours late to coming to our home. I told him we had been without AC forever and that he needed to come and return those things back on. He said it was misting out and that he couldn’t do anything. He said he would wait 30 minutes and then he would see what he could do.

He got out of the truck angrily and ripped one of our AC units almost off the stand completely such that like pulling on the dryer and then the cords. He said he would have to call my manager. I talked to his manager for a little bit and the manager said they were not gonna do any work to my unit until I pay. It was in and around $220 for four pounds of Freon. I said that they were just out and they said that the units were working fine. Their previous report said they took one pound of Freon out.

I didn’t feel like I should be responsible when it was misdiagnosed. He said I was receiving service. Donald got on the phone and he got in the car and drove off. So here we are still without AC. I wrote to ConsumerAffairs and the social media team from American Home Shield started to reach out to me. At that point, I felt like we were making some type of action. They got Total Air Care to come back out and clear the unit, clear the blockage, and put the four pounds in but it still didn’t work. I got a few months hold from Total Air Care trying to fix the problem because at that point, I had reported them as well.

I cancelled my contract with American Home Shield and I’ve been on the phone with them nonstop for the last couple of weeks. They told me to have a contractor come out and diagnose exactly what was wrong. So I searched the internet for the best contractor in the area and I found the one with the highest reviews, Licensed to Chill out of Baton Rouge. They came out while I was in the military training trip and they diagnosed the upstairs and downstairs units.

They said there were multiple Freon leaks and the condensers were pretty poor. I paid them $190 to diagnose the system and I submitted it to American Home Shield. Also, I called Total Air Care and they ended up giving me all the service reports for the last two years, all the times they’ve been out for those units which I thought was not very intelligent on their part. But now I have a clear track record of the misdiagnosis of the units. I moved into the house on the professional opinion of that company and here I am this week paying $13,000 to get two new AC units, which is kinda crazy. AHS said they would pay up to 7,000 which was good, but I was still putting a major bill. That was the first issue.

The second issue was two days after we moved in, the hot water wasn’t working in the master bathroom. The contractor came out and they said it was the cartridge. It was a Moen cartridge that goes in the shower which they had to order through AHS and they would be back in a couple of days to fix it. Not quite sure what happened, but a month later, we still weren’t able to use the shower. They didn’t come back out. I called American Home Shield and told them it was ridiculous. Apparently, they said the part was still on order.

I told AHS they need to send another plumber out, so they sent KNS Plumbing out. They took the shower stem apart and they said the cartridge may need replacement but it was also leaking into the wall and they need to replace the whole stem. So they went and replaced it. They said American Home Shield would replace the stem, but I would have to pay $175 for the copper work in and around the stem. So they fixed that. But things in and around the shower completely routed out and the tiles started to fall off the wall. It has been a nightmare with American Home Shield, so we decided to drop them so we could just hire our own contractors to come out and do the work properly.

But their social media coordinator has been great, although I had to write to ConsumerAffairs and Better Business Bureau for her to get back to me. I would either get their call center in Indonesia or get their call center in Alabama. If I get the Alabama one, sometimes they can do stuff, but that’s about it. AHS said to go out and buy a wall unit, which we did and they were like they would only refund me $150 for $190 and it would cost 300. But after the social media lady reached out to me, they sent me a check for 300 to cover. It cost 350 for the wall unit. The coordinator seemed confident in her e-mail that they would take the whole thing and then it was like I have to talk to another manager and it went on for two weeks.

Then finally, I said the last month that it was getting ridiculous. They asked for the quote of the company I had out and each individual part and what it costs. So they came down to this and they said they would replace the small AC unit upstairs and the air handler, but that they were only gonna replace the compressor on the downstairs one. I went to my guy and asked how much the compressor is. He said he was not gonna replace the compressor, but the whole unit. But that if he were to replace it, it would be at least $400 plus labor. AHS came back and said they got everything really cheap and it would only cost them $300. And that was they offered me. That's where we're at right now with them. But I haven't brought with them the shower issue yet. I don’t think we’re gonna get anything from them, so we’re just hiring our own contractors to come in and fix it. We won’t be renewing the warranty with them.

I've always called American Home Shield when submitting claims as it was easier because I never seemed to have the account number on me. I've always liked the contractors they've sent out as well. If we had to have them come back for some reason, they were really good. Our most recent claim with them was for our remote door opener that wasn't working. Since it was an older one, they replaced the board for the door opener to work.

I've had no problems with American Home Shield. But, I had a funny experience with them. We've sold the house and I thought that I've already told them about that. We even paid for a copay for the person who bought the house and yet, they keep on taking money out of my account. It's all my fault, though, because I didn't call them back. But I thought, too, why would they have two accounts on the same house. Other than that, I have no complaints.

We had a leak on the outside of the house. It was on the ground, around the foundation of the house. But we did not know its origin so we called American Home Shield and the plumber showed up on a Friday. It was mid-morning and that time of arrival was within the acceptable window. This person dug a hole on the outside, two feet in diameter, but he couldn't find the leak. Then he went inside the house and asked permission to cut into the Sheetrock. It was reasonable and I said okay. He cut in six slices on the Sheetrock. This was in the front bedroom, and it went from the front to the side of the bedroom and all the way to the bathroom. Still, he couldn’t find the leak. He said he would be back on Monday and left the property. He left the six spots, which were about 8 x 12 inches, cut open. And he never even called that Monday.

That day, my nephew called the card that he left but the person at the office said that they didn’t have any record of the service call. On the following Thursday, almost 10 days later, the plumber called and said he would be by the next day to make the repairs. But at that point, I had gotten my problem fixed, after ending up going through three different plumbers. It was an outside leak and the company used some kind of a probe to find it. So the first plumber wasn't even close to finding the leak.

American Home Shield also called and asked us if that had been closed and we told them no. I told them the story but I didn’t hear another word from them. We have since sold that house but we had paid American Home Shield for three months in advance. We requested a refund and they said, "Yup. No problem. We'll send it to you." That was such a lie. We hadn't heard another word from them about that either.

We also had a plumber that went to my son’s in Keller, Texas and they were to find a leak. It was an upstairs bathroom leaking into the garage. They cut about a 3 x 5 hole in the ceiling then left it open, and the leak still continued. So we had to get another plumber to fix that leak. We've had four properties covered by American Home Shield for several years and we're dropping them completely. They are not worth the money that we paid for them.

It’s a good experience to use American Home Shield especially if you’re trying to sell or buy a home. It’s good that AHS has reputable companies that were able to service us. One of them looked at one of our other products that I was having a question about and he did a little bit more than he had to. I lost power in all the outlets in the master bedroom, master bathroom, and the laundry room. We normally have an air conditioner in the room. We have TV, and we couldn't really go into the bathroom and use any of the outlets because it was too dark. Then, in the washing room, we couldn’t operate our washer and dryer. I, then, submitted the claim through American Home Shield's website and it was pretty easy. I called on the weekend, and I got a text from the company. Then, I got a call that Monday morning and they came out that afternoon. My wife talked to the contractor, and they were professional. They have seen, diagnosed, and defined the problem quickly, and resolved the issue. Everything is now working great.

It is a good program and I would recommend it. If you have something going wrong, now, in this day and age, you have to pay a small co-pay, and then have them come out and diagnose it, which is more than what the co-pay is. So, it definitely comes in handy.

I have not had good experiences with American Home Shield. I’m a real estate agent and I prefer not to use them if at all possible. I would never recommend them either. As the property manager, we started a claim for the tenants for a dishwasher that was broken and people came out about four times for it. They said they were gonna order a part and then once they got the part in, they said something had to be done with a plumber. The plumber came out but then the ball was dropped on several different fronts. American Home Shield finally just replaced the dishwasher. The tenants have a brand-new dishwasher that’s working great now. But that claim took six months from start to finish.

The claims submission process is okay. You can go online and do it. But sometimes, it goes into the big abyss and you don’t get a call back. There's no follow through. I've had to call them because they’ve lost a claim and they don’t know where it’s gone. So it’s better to call so that you can get the name of the contractor that they’re assigning so that you can follow up with them if you don’t hear anything. But on days that I have to sit there for several hours, be on hold and get it figured out, it's not something I like to do. I even wait on the phone for a while sometimes to find out that it’s another department that has to help and be on hold a little bit longer.

I’ve had American Home Shield myself when we first moved into our house and we actually had somebody come to our house to repair our dishwasher. They said they needed to get a part and we had to give them additional money. They left and cashed the check but we never heard from them again. As a general rule, I’m very cautious about who American Home Shield sends out. I’ve asked before if I could request a specific contractor and was told no then I was told yes. So they don't seem to communicate internally. It doesn’t make for a pleasant experience for someone who's using the service.

We've had American Home Shield for many years and we're very pleased. First, my brother-in-law got it then we got it. Then my in-laws got it and I have a number of friends who have it as well. It's such a perfect fit. If you have old appliances or it's an older home, having a warranty makes sense to me. When my husband's hot tub wasn't doing well, he filed the claim over the phone. First Call Appliance came out and was excellent. They were very efficient and well-mannered. The hot tub is doing well now. We've also had a lot of things replaced and it's been very prompt as far as contractors coming to our home, repairing and doing what they've needed to do. American Home Shield has done wonderfully and I highly recommend it to everybody.

The only time I've had problems with AHS was with the refrigerator in our property in California. The water dispenser, it wasn’t working. At first, they went, and they opened the fridge, and they checked. They found nothing wrong. So they left, and they sent the bill. And I said, “No, no, no. You go back and then fix it or have someone to check it.” So they went back three more times. They didn’t have the part, then they came with the wrong person, then they didn’t have the time. They eventually got it fixed. It was a headache that they came four times to just fix up the sensor.

On the other hand, we recently had a good experience with them here in Arizona. One of my AC did not start up, and the monitor wasn’t starting up again. So I called AHS and the company called me the next day and they were really good. He was very nice and helpful and he dressed well. So despite our experience in California, I’d still recommend them.

We waited for a part but when he came back later with it, it wasn’t the problem that he initially thought of. So he said probably, it was another problem. I had to wait again for the other part and then finally, it was resolved. After the repair, the dishwasher has been fine. Overall, I'm satisfied with the service I got.

The communication was over email and it was convenient for me. The contractor called me and we set up the time. They came but a part that needed to be replaced had to be ordered. It took a week and a half to get it and then, they came back and did the work. So, I’m happy. We needed to manage a few days without air condition but I was informed and expectations were set correctly, so there was no crisis. Since then, it has been working. I had a pleasant experience with AHS. It was professional and even exceeded my expectation. It’s an insurance company and you never know how they would react but they were great.

One of them had a compressor problem and the other had a leak and lost its Freon so, we filed claims to American Home Shield for both. We did it online and they responded within two hours both times. I had a refrigerator problem as well and they were very good at getting back to us. Outside of having to wait for the compressor for two weeks since it happened at the peak of summer, it was a good experience and I just had to pay the service fee. JG Mechanical has done an outstanding job. The technician fixed this unit once before and always has done a good job. Since the repair, it has been very good. As of 11/05/2018 I have been waiting for a dedicated consumer complaints representative, Miriah ** to return a call. When you FINALLY reach someone... NOTHING! I do not understand how this company even stays in business!!!

Original Review: This company sucks! I have been trying for over 30 days to get reimbursed for the cost of a sump pump. I had to pay out of my pocket because AHS could not find a contractor to repair within the terms of my contract. My basement was already flooded and we're expecting 3 more inches of rain within the next 12 hours. By the grace of God I did have the cash on hand or my basement of my house would have been destroyed.

You can never speak to a customer service representative no matter which of the thousand numbers you call... And the chat capability has been completely removed from the website. When you do reach a customer service representative they will tell you anything and make promises to return calls which they have no intention in doing. I am currently in the process of identifying another home warranty insurance provider and would advise anyone that is currently covered by AHS or thinking about purchasing coverage to save the pain and headache by selecting a more customer service oriented organization!

They first came, said they had to order a part and we didn’t hear from them again. They said they would follow up with us and they didn’t. I called American Home Shield to ask if can specify a different provider because it wasn't working out, but they said no because I’ve already started with that provider, so that was not a great experience. However, AHS asked about putting them on our do not use list and I said yes.

After multiple followups Sears eventually came out again but they didn’t fix the problem. It took a long time to get back to us, and we had a long time to wait for another part. I asked for a cash out option for the washing machine and I didn’t hear back. Recently, I had two problems on the pool heater. The first one was something to do with the igniter, which wouldn’t stay on. It wouldn’t ignite and then the contractor came out again because it wouldn’t stay on, but it seems to be fixed now. Sometimes though, I feel like AHS only does a quick patch on things when parts should have been totally replaced. When I had issues with the garbage disposal, their contractors just repaired it, then I started having more problems with it. It has been repaired about two times and I just didn’t wanna mess with it again, so if I was gonna have to pay a $75 charge, I might as well just replace it and since it was about 10 years old. I typically call American Home Shield when submitting claims and the only issue I have is that sometimes it takes a while to get to a representative. But otherwise, I've been quite pleased and happy with AHS. Most recently, the LG washing machine had water remaining in both the closed conditioner tray as well as the bleach area and it shouldn't have been. Service First came out and we wound up having to replace the controller that controls the water going to those various spots.

A couple of years ago, we had some AC issues that turned out to be something very almost stupid and simple that two guys flat overlooked. The third one finally said it was not grounded right and that solved the problem. American Home Shield, like everybody else in the business, is trying to get what they want done as cheaply as they can get it done, which says you don't always have a team working for you. But overall, I can't complain for the price tag I put into it. At this point, we're pretty much on a breakeven because so far, they've never replaced any appliance or AC system. It has been a matter of fix this and fix that as the issues occur.

I had exhaust fans in the bathroom and it stopped working shortly after I moved in. So I put in the work order with Home Shield. There was some mix-up with my phone number, so nobody was able to contact me for a while, and I had to sort of chase that down and work it out myself. Some people claimed that they emailed me, and I didn't get emails. But it all eventually got sorted out. The issue with the exhaust fans in two bathrooms, was resolved quickly, except those people didn't clean up the workspace when they were done. So I just had a bunch of dust all over my bathroom. They just slapped in new fans and left.

With another claim, which is the dishwasher, it took forever to get parts in. But that was a manufacturer problem. It wasn't the company that was sent from American Home Shield, because they were pretty easy to work with. They came out when they said they were gonna come out and the guy did all his tests and ordered the parts. I had to call Maytag and ask them why the part was still on backorder for several months and then magically, it was resolved in a week. So now, that's all working perfectly.

I also had a claim for a thermostat, which was jacked up and J&A South Park, who AHS sent, was amazing. The technician was super easy to work with. However, whenever people from AHS were calling me, asking what the problem was, it was like they might've been talking a different language but it worked. American Home Shield was really, really good in the past. I’ve had a few issues, and they’ve taken care of them. Submitting my latest claim also went smoothly and they sent out a technician who did a great job. It was just that I was trying to get AHS to understand the situation, and they really didn’t seem to. One of the igniters on my stove went off so I didn’t have a stove to use. From what they told me, they have to order the igniter, and then it would come to the house, and I had to make an appointment with them to get it put in. And because it was gonna be a few days before they would even get one, I took the other igniter out, and then I was gonna put it in the oven. But when I was putting it in the oven, I touched it and it broke. So I had to order another one and I paid for it separately.

Sometimes, it seems like they don’t wanna hear what I've got to say about things. It’s all about the contractors and what they have to do. It’s about the law and not about the situation. I had my freezer, and it’s still broken. I didn’t know at the time that I couldn’t touch anything and I took the parts out of the freezer, and I had thrown them away since they were no good because my icemaker was broke. AHS said they can’t fix it because I touched it. They sent a technician out to look at it but since there were no parts there when he came, he said he can't do anything about it. I told them that the freezer was a Kenmore and they can just order the parts but he said he can’t because he can't justify it. Also, AHS told me that because I touched it, it’s out of warranty.

My refrigerator was cooling all the time as opposed to stopping once in a while and defrost the coils, clear the coils and blower them. So the coils would get frozen and there won't be any airflow through them. The refrigerator was not cooling and we lost a lot of food. I went online and requested service from AHS. A local tech called up the next day to schedule an appointment. He said the issue was the computer board and fixed it. We put the food back in after a day, but a week later, the coils had frozen up again. We had to throw the food away again. I wish American Home Shield would take it into account that when they fail to repair, there's a lot of expensive food being thrown away each time.

I had to call three times and the same tech came and did the repair three times. They replaced the computer board a second time and again a third time today. I'm thinking they threw away some expensive computer parts that may be fine. There's not a whole lot of other things that could be wrong though because the refrigerator, the compressor, the coils, and the fan, are blowing so it appears to be a computer problem.

There's a trade service fee of $75 that you pay once and if they had to come back to fix it, it's not your problem that they didn’t diagnose or fix the problem the first time. However, each time then contractor came back, AHS charged me $75 service fee. I shouldn’t be paying $75 each time and I had to call them to put an accounting dispute in. They took the charge off for the second and third time, but only after I called them. The system also automatically sends urgent emails and reminders that the charges are in default. I've been with American Home Shield for two decades and they usually come through for me though.

Recently, when a knowledgeable guy came to do the repair, he installed them and everything is working fine now. So I took the insulation off so I could put in a new one and I found some bad rust spots where my pipe had come off. I then called American Home Shield so they could send someone out. Another heating and air guy came out and I told him that there was a squirrel that was living at one time, before I bought the house, in the ductwork and that it looked like maybe it might have torn up some of the insulation but I couldn’t say for sure if that was what it was. I just saw a bunch of acorns on top of it. He wrote that in as a report saying that it was pest damage and AHS won’t cover it.

My ductwork started to rust really badly and I got my floor torn out due to the ductwork sweating so badly. It has created my floor to swell and then it got mold and fungus. Now, I got my whole living room ripped out where I can see the crawlspace and I didn't have a living room for two weeks. I still got other issues but I know that AHS won’t pay for it. I had previous termite damage before I bought the house about 20 years ago and now that I got this floor ripped out, I can see much better what part of my foundation was rotted and I’m concerned that that side of the house is gonna fall down. I’m trying to take care of that but I know AHS won’t take care of it because of pests. AHS is worthless and I’m not gonna buy it. Even my attorney who closed the house that we bought said AHS was the best. I knew that from the beginning, but they reiterated that. They said there’s not a better one out there.

I put in a service request for my stove to American Home Shield and I did it online. I have an older browser so it was a little slow and you gotta make sure that everything is going through but that was okay. AHS sent out their local appliance representative. He was good and knew what he was doing. He took one look at the unit, put his voltmeter on it and said that it was a common problem. He told me that he has to order a part and that would take a couple of weeks. He called me in a couple of weeks and told me that he had the part. He then came and fixed the unit. The stove is working fine now and I'm happy with it.

It's easy to submit claims with American Home Shield. I just do it online. After I file the claim, a contractor contacts me and comes out to our home in less than 24 hours. The contractors sent out by AHS have all been professional and their service has been good and quick. Everything has been working fine since they came out and fixed some things for me. We recently filed a claim with AHS for the AC in our house here in Texas. The line was clogged. Our experience with that AC issue was good and everything has been taken care of. On the whole, AHS is easy to use and affordable.

The fan of the refrigerator stopped working. The freezer part was working, but the fan that blew over the condenser was not cooling the refrigerator itself. I was assigned D & D immediately, but they were not very responsive. It took a while for the contractor to finally come out. When he came, he said, "Tell me where the refrigerator is." I showed it to him and he immediately diagnosed it and that was a pretty quick diagnosis. He was there in less than five minutes. He told me he should have the part within the next couple days at most. But it seemed like I was tracking them down more than I should once the part finally came in and that was a little frustrating. It took over a week for them to actually get the part. But once he got it fixed, it was good. He was also friendly and he got the job done. AHS has great service, I'd recommend it.

I like submitting claims to American Home Shield on the phone more than I like doing it online. I don’t feel like I can follow with the online stuff as well or as easily. If I'm talking to a person on the phone, I can get answered where I can't online. But other than that, the online is not too bad. Their co-pay seems to keep going up every month though, and I always liked it before so that’s a little bit of a disappointment to me. I understand that prices go up but they've always seemed to go up every year whether the prices have changed or are the same. And I don’t understand that.

On the other hand, the contractors that I've dealt with have been great. They get there as quick as they can and usually, it's fairly quickly. It's within a day or so, and I get my problem resolved, whatever it is. The AC stopped once and it was in the heat of the Texas weather. The AC just wouldn’t run so I called American Home Shield to have someone come out to look at it. When the repair guy came out, he looked at it, found a loose wire and fixed it. It's doing fine now.

I had a different home warranty company that I was very unhappy with, and American Home Shield came recommended by my sister. American Home Shield’s website has a ‘Request a Contractor’ button and they would send out a request after you fill out a small form that says what’s wrong or what device is bad. Then they send out the appropriate contractor and I get the phone number for that contractor. He’d call me, set up an appointment and then come out. I’ve had two services, the first for my exhaust fan which was a fiasco. The fan in my bathroom went bad and all of the paint in my bathroom peeled because it took them a month to finally get somebody to come out here. The recent claim was pretty simple and easy. I had a furnace go out and though it took the contractor a couple of days, the tech guy was thorough and efficient. He came in, took care of it right away and fixed it. So, it was much easier to deal with.

I had a problem with my AC and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online. I have also spoken to the reps and they were easy to get along with and were good to work with. However, I wasn’t happy with the answers they were giving me, but I wasn’t happy more because my problem wasn’t getting corrected. The company they sent out here took five trips before they got it right.

The first time they came out, they found out the AC was low on refrigerant, put it in and then left. And that lasted for about a week. And then it started doing the same thing again. So they came out and they found that the capacitor was bad. I asked the guy why don’t they check the whole system out before they leave and he said they can’t do that. If they find the problem, they have to fix the problem and then leave. That’s all the contract with AHS allowed them to do. And because they never tested the system, I felt they could have resolved it there. But, eventually, they were fixing the symptoms and not the problem. They eventually found the true problem. There was a pipe that was clogged up, so they took care of that. And it’s always the same issues.

So then they came out again, and they found that the refrigerant was low again, so they decided that we got leaks. They did the leaks then and they found the evaporator coil was bad. They didn’t have the part on the truck, so they scheduled an appointment and came back and installed it. And then about three days after they installed it, I had the exact same symptoms again. So they had to come back and correct it then. And then that was the last time I have seen or heard of them because I haven't had any need for them to come back. Even so, American Home Shield as the company itself, dealing with me was pleasant. I got my money’s worth. It’s just their service contract with the contractors needs to be re-looked at. But I'm satisfied and happy with the support I got from American Home Shield.

It’s a smooth and easy process doing it over the phone, it’s just that sometimes I don’t feel like waiting so I do it online instead. Their site could be a bit better, like the tabs and finding the information that the customers need. The first time, it took me a little while of exploring the site around but things got good once I understood it.

Each time that I’ve requested a service, I’ve had knowledgeable people. Each time that the contractors would come out, everything’s been resolved in that visit so the quality of the providers that they sent out had been good service. The only drawback that I had was how the service fees go. If I’m calling about an issue, they’re making multiple service calls and that kinda caught me off guard. The last company that I used, if I called, they would set everything else up. But American Home Shield's response time was quick as far as the turnaround from putting a claim to having them get somebody out to our home. As a consumer, what we care about is how long it would take us to get our problem fixed and American Home Shield is doing a good job there.

Also, I found it very difficult to get through when I called in claims or followed up. I needed copies of invoices for work I did through this service, and they couldn’t email it. They had to mail it. The last 10 times I called, I was on hold for 30 minutes every time. I tried various times, and it was always a constant. The customer service isn’t very good either and I was disappointed with that. American Home Shield no longer does any preventative too. I sold the home, and one of the issues on the home inspection was to have the two units in the house checked out, serviced, and warrantied that they were in good repair.

I called American Home Shield and they don’t do that kind of service. I had another company come in, and they found a leak in the system, but American Home Shield didn't see it as a repair job. Plus, they charge for the refrigerant and the price is outrageous. They tripled the price of what it actually cost and I ended up paying hundreds of dollars for repairs, especially with the HVAC systems. If I had to do it again, I would never join them.

My refrigerator water line that runs from the bottom into the freezer door broke and when we use the filtered water dispenser, water gushes out! I called AHS and contractors came in to check it out and did not say much or have any question – just took notes and left. In a few days, AHS left me a message indicating that they denied it claiming that “It is not a normal wear and tear”! As if to indicate that I have purposely cut the water line for some mysterious reasons. I then called AHS and they stated that I am entitled for a second assessment from a different contractor – however, they indicated that if the second opinion comes in with the same diagnoses, I’ll be on a hook to pay $100.0 (part of the contract – so now I’ve paid $200 total with nothing to show off!)

I was confident that the second opinion will come through for me since there is no much to check but to note that the water line just broke; so, I agreed. A new contractor check came to check and left without much question and said that he will check with his manager. I called after few days to get the status and I am horrified to know that the second contractor denied my claim citing different reasons altogether!

In fact, when I called AHS to dispute this, they told me that the second contractor verbally told them that it is not a normal wear and tear (VERBALLY), while I have an image of the second contractor that mention nothing about wear and tear but rather that a malfunction happened due to a missing component!!! AHS is nothing like they say at their site!!! I’m very dissatisfied and unhappy with this service and every time I call to I get to wait hours for the call back to only give me yet another phone number to call! He opened up the wall and there was wood there but it wasn’t wet so there was no way there was a leak there. I thought they would be more thorough though. A lot of people just don't want to work right now. You call them out to do something but they don't do their jobs.

The warranty was worth the cost in the past. But I know it’s not American Home Shield this time. It's the contractors. But American Home Shield has to choose the correct contractor. Why do they not even choose contractors in my area? Then they would say that the contractor can’t get to me because they only work by zip code. That happens instead of you just having someone in your area who may be able to service you more efficiently. I know some companies may have people in the area while the company itself may be further away. But they’ve said that the contractor was coming from Dayton or Columbus. And I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio. On the other hand, I’ve been with American Home Shield for years and years, and I've had some things done where they replaced what I needed. All my experiences have been pretty good until now.

I made two claims with American Home Shield over the phone about at the same time--one was for a plumbing issue when I had a stoppage and the other one was for a heating and air conditioning system that broke down and needed to be replaced. It was easy to file the claims but it was hard to get someone to do the jobs. It wasn’t as bad for the plumbing issue, though. I didn’t know somebody was coming until the people that were contacted called me and told me that they were on their way to help me with the plumbing problem.

As far as the air conditioning and heating issue, I had started the claim back in May and to this date, I still don’t have the problem solved. AHS had one gentleman, who was not from this area, come one day and I never heard from him again. Then they contacted someone else that wasn’t really from this area either and the contractor never showed. Finally, the third people that were contacted came. They’ve put in their work order for the new unit and it took weeks for that to be processed. I then received a call and I was told that there were some fees that were not included. About $1,300 more was what was needed for the job to be done and so I agreed to that.

Weeks went by again and then finally, out of the blue, I got a text saying that someone was on their way to remove my old unit. They came and removed my old unit and then weeks went by again before I got a text saying that the contractors were on their way with my new unit. Now, my new unit is sitting out there and it is not installed at all. I was also told that the contractor had to order some parts and they had to re-do some things.

I went all summer with no air. We’re now going into November and I have no heat, so I am not pleased. I stopped paying American Home Shield because I'm not getting the service. I feel, though, that they would be obligated to finish this particular job because this job has started before I stopped paying them. I am very dissatisfied with AHS and would tell others not to go with them.

When the first technician came out to fix the air condition at home, they just patched it up and left. I called AHS back again. I told them not to send back the same technician because he did not check the leak for the unit. They sent another one and he checked for leaks. He found the leak at the coil for the air condition and he changed the part. After he changed it, the others went into the attic to look for leaks, too. However, while they were in the attic, it seemed like they turned off a switch, so I called them out again because I had my air condition and heater off for about two weeks and my air condition was not working.

They sent out the tech and he diagnosed the unit. He saw where the problem was and it was the switch for the heater in the attic. American Home Shield said that the switch only controls the heater, but the switch is what controls the air condition, and when the tech turned the switch on, the air condition started to work again. Then, AHS charged me an extra $75 because they had to do something with that switch which worked both items, which they were saying doesn’t work both items because that was what the technician said.

I told them it was not fair because I called them to come out for my air condition again, which neither the air conditioner nor the heater was working. It just took the switch to be switched, which they probably turned off, and they charged me an extra $75. That gave me some discontent. I’ve been with AHS for over 30 years and I also changed from one home that I had American Home Shield with besides the one that I have. I didn’t wanna get into any discussion with them, not that I cannot afford it, but it was not fair.

Something like this had happened in the past, but that ceased from happening. They would come out for something and then they said it was not under the coverage. Then, they would send somebody else out from another technician, then they will fix it. Also, when I call AHS, sometimes it takes a long time to answer and I spend an hour while waiting for them. That is very disappointing because if you are paying for something and you call them, someone should at least get to you in at least 10 minutes, not an hour or an hour and a half.

I have recommended AHS to all my family members. They are now members of it, but my sister had to get out of it because they used to tell her that they don’t cover this and they don’t cover that. She got disappointed and got out of it, but my brothers and some of my friends have it. I’m satisfied with AHS overall, although instances like this tick me off because they are charging me an extra $75 for nothing. On top of that, I told them to send me the tech because the technician did not leave me a statement of what they did when they came out. I told them I would like to see the statement from the technician, but the rep was saying that the heater didn’t have anything to do with the air condition, although the blower and the air condition and the blower for the heater work together.

They said they were gonna send the statement, but they haven’t even sent it yet. I told them to email it to me because I was gonna take the technician or the company to Consumers Affairs or the Better Business Bureau. He told me one thing when he was here, knowing that it was the air condition and heater not working, but when he contacted, when he wrote up his statement and sent it to American Home Shield, he said that the heater switch was only turned off.

My first experience with American Home Shield was very satisfactory when I had a leak on the floor where my old water heater was. The contractor discovered that it was the heater and within a few days, I got the brand-new one. That was a positive experience but I had a very unsatisfactory one with the refrigerator which was already here when I bought the house. The rubber around the door fell out and I called the vendor, Bill’s Electric. They promptly sent somebody out and it took two weeks to order the rubber. Then, within a few days, I noticed that it started to fall out again. They had to order another rubber and I waited again for two weeks for it to come in. So far, the rubber hasn’t fallen off.

The refrigerator is old and it’s going to run into some kind of problem. At this time, it’s not interfering with my use but it’s a below-average functioning refrigerator. It would have been simple and worthwhile to me if they just replaced it because it was a small one that cost $400 in any of our stores. So, that was disappointing. I got information that AHS was good with replacing big items but this is a small item and that was not sensible to me. That kind of problem is going to be a reoccurring problem. Maybe not the door rubber but other things because it’s a very old refrigerator. Nevertheless, the technicians from Bill’s were great and very professional. They were young and knowledgeable.

I recommended AHS when I had a client whose heater went out and I shared my experience. However, I’m contemplating cancelling the service because I want the best service. Also, I could buy the refrigerator myself and save my monthly payments. I’ve tried to let the disappointment pass and hopefully, my mind will change. If I was a business owner running the business, I would think in those terms and as to what can prevent future problems. American Home Shield should value what a customer has to say because I’m not overusing the services. I would not call unless I really need it. I’ve had other calls and visits, and it was not problematic, which was okay. I don’t have a problem paying my share of cost when they come out but this was a refrigerator that is falling apart. It was not handled in a practical and customer service method.

We just purchased the home and the coverage came with our purchase. This was our first experience and it was awesome. I would highly recommend them.

Rose Heating & Air Conditioning did a good job on our AC issue. We had another contractor here and it had taken them a long time to fix the air conditioner. And about a week later, the same thing started happening with the air conditioner and it stopped cooling. So, I called American Home Shield and Rose came out. It was just a switch that was broken. It was a very simple thing, and the air conditioner has been working fine ever since.

American Home Shield's customer service reps were very nice. My husband was upset with the service that the company before Rose was giving us, only that we were old and we were having an extremely hot weather, and it was taking them a long time to get the parts and get the air conditioner working. It took over a week to get the parts. It was a long process. They came out, they found out what was wrong, they ordered the parts, and then, it was over the Fourth of July weekend. It was kind of a long time. But, the people that came from that company were really nice.

The service from both contractors seemed to be very good. They seem to be really nice, and they did their jobs efficiently. There were also service people from Sears Service that came out to work on the dishwasher. There were some good representatives and some that weren’t so good when Sears came out. But the man who came to work on my washing machine was a really good service. It went fast, and he replaced the bearings in the washing machine and it’s working fine.

The washing machine read an error message. When I looked in the user manual, it gave me steps to do and the error message didn’t go away. If the error message wouldn't go away, then there was something wrong with the washing machine so I called American Home Shield to have a repair person come by and take a look at it. The gentleman came out the same day. He laid a mat down and covered his shoes before he came into the house and explained what he was going to be doing. After he looked at the washing machine, he explained what the possible problem was and he ordered parts as he didn’t have the parts from my machine available.

He got the parts a couple of days later. When he went to replace those parts and opened up the drum, he saw that it was a larger issue where the metal was disintegrating on the inside of the drum. So he said that I needed a new washing machine. AHS gave me a few choices to choose from a list of washing machines or I could request a check and buy a different type of washing machine. So, I took a check and bought a different washing machine then paid out of pocket for the difference. However, I would’ve liked that I would’ve gotten pretty close to the amount of what I paid for on the washing machine just because the washing machine that I replaced wasn’t an inexpensive one. But overall, I understand them. I’m assuming they do what like they do with cars and do depreciation.

I had American Home Shield for a long time, but the quality of the contractors that they outsource has declined significantly over the years. They were sending out contractors that weren't capable of performing the work. The people at AHS answer when I call. But whatever system AHS uses to contact the contractor on their end and for that contractor to subsequently contact us, that line of communication is broken. One time, we had an air conditioner that was blowing but it was not cool. We then called it in with AHS to get service, however, the whole experience was terrible. It was 90 degrees outside and we were waiting for someone to call. I called one of the gentlemen that AHS had contracted the AC out to and he cussed me out in front of my house.

AHS had somebody come out from the same company three to four times for the same issue. I had to request them not to send that company back out because they weren't solving the problem. AHS made me pay for a new claim each time, so I ended up putting out quite a few days of funding. They ended up refunding some of the money back, but I still had to put the money up front to get them to open a new claim. We finally found someone they sent that was able to do the repair, so I am happy about that, but it took two weeks. Everything’s fine now. So hopefully, it stays that way.

American Home Shield sent out a plumber for my walk-in tub drain and all he did was unclog the drain and then I continued to have the same problem. Then, I got Drano myself and did the same thing that plumber did. Also, I called AHS and they sent out the wrong kind of person. They sent a tub technician and when the technician came, he said he was not the person for the job. There was nothing wrong with the tub. It was a plumbing problem and a plumber had to come out. So that didn’t work out, but he asked for a plumber. AHS then rescheduled another plumber. I called them in advance and told them that I wanted to cancel it because I felt like they would just gonna unclog the drain again and that was gonna be a temporary fix.

Also, I noticed at least two times that there was water on the floor when I looked down in the basement. Then, when the plumber came today, he had to go into the walls at my house because he said there was a serious problem with the tub. He said the water I found in the basement floor was coming from the same tub drain. There was a serious leak and it would have continued to build up. I feel like the plumbers that AHS sent out were good in handling minor things but they weren't able to help me with the real problem with the tub. The plumbers came out and they just put a Band-Aid on the situation and they didn’t do a good assessment. In two minutes, they’re gone and then the next thing I know, the problem hasn’t been fixed. The plumbers need to do better and take the time to do a better assessment. They always seemed rushed. In that regard, I wasn't satisfied with them. It doesn't cost a lot of money but I needed to have it done right.

I’m not satisfied with AHS' customer service through all of this either and when I call, it takes practically a whole day to get somebody. A lot of times, my experience was when I got somebody and after talking about two minutes, they would say they got to put me on hold and look in and get the information. And then within maybe five minutes of holding on, the line would drop and I would have to keep starting over. Also, it would be nice to get somebody even if they wouldn’t answer and put you on hold like, "I’ll be with you in a few minutes or something," as opposed to get a recording and end up being on that for as long as half an hour and then still not get anybody. It has been a nightmare for me.

I always had extended warranties on all my appliances but now, all of them are not covered. That was when I started with the home warranty. Some of my friends use American Home Shield and they recommended it. I've been with them for a few years now and I'm pleased with them. But when I called later in the evening, I held for a long time. At that time, I thought they must not be open but someone recently mentioned that they're open 24 hours. So if it’s evening, I go on the computer to file a claim. But one time, I wanted to add something that was similar and it would have been the same service guy but the computer couldn't do it. The system was making it like a new request and I didn't wanna have that where I was responsible for two different service calls. I wanted to make sure they were together. So I ended up making a phone call to make sure it was done correctly.

I've also had A Appliance Service a lot lately but for whatever reason, I couldn't communicate with them on the phone this last time. I wasn't getting his call so I was frustrated because he had not returned my call for a few days. But I left a message and when I called him, he answered and we were able to talk. As it turned out, he had left me messages. He got my messages but I wasn't getting his. So that was frustrating. It isn't my phone service though, because I went through all of that and had people check that out. It's something with his phone service. But before this last time, it was fine. The technician also knows his stuff and he explained everything. So I like him a lot. Overall, American Home Shield's service is still good.

Then he pulled out of the driveway, went down into the street, and turned around the corner there. AHS has an automated phone system that takes the information about your problem or sometimes, the rep takes the information. They then send me a text with the number of the company that is gonna come over and do the job. But when I go online to submit a claim, I don’t get any response that they have received the message itself and thanking me for letting them know the problem.

The contractors take more than the time that AHS gives them before they respond, especially when I need it really bad. Also, some of the companies that they got here in Texas aren't clean. But sometimes, I'm happy with what they're doing. It all depends on the person that’s coming. If an older guy comes, I don’t have any problems with him. But when some of the young kids come in and do their work, they are in a hurry and they’ll have their cellphone with them and start talking to somebody else. But other than that, I like American Home Shield and I’ve got my sister-in-law and my kids to take them. It’s fast and it saves you money in the long run.

The day that I called American Home Shield for the washer claim, I knew exactly what was wrong. The seal at the boot of the washer is called the door boot and I could see that there was a tear in it. American Home Shield said they just had to send the tech out and the tech from Apex TV and Appliances showed up a week later. He confirmed that the problem was the door boot. That was what I had said and I was hoping he brought the parts. But apparently, they were just there to assess things. It took three weeks for them to get the boot in and they wouldn’t schedule my appointment to install it until they had it in stock. Then once they finally got it in, they scheduled my appointment for another week out. So we were going on four weeks without a washer.

The tech showed up but the part that they ordered was ripped. I was like, “You're freaking kidding me.” He went back to the shop and ordered another one. The next day, I called the shop. I said another one is on order and I asked if they could at least get me on the schedule. But they told me they had to wait until the part was in stock. It was ridiculous. So I went on another week without a washer. I had been to the laundromat twice and I spent about 50 bucks because we're a family of six. I probably did 15 loads in two visits. Finally, I called the executive office because I knew something was amiss and I got a really great lady on the phone. She apologized profusely and said, “Let me call you back in 10 minutes.” In 10 minutes, she had approval for us to just get a new washer altogether because we had dealt with that silliness for so long.

Apex was horrible and they shouldn’t even be on American Home Shield’s list of contractors. The company was not proactive to communicate or do anything other than say, “No, we have to wait ‘til the part comes in and then we'll call you.” So they sucked. In fact, whether it was American Home Shield or the contractors, the people I dealt with were not as proactive as I had hoped. So I would tell others to stay on top of the situation and write down the names of everyone they’re dealing with. American Home Shield came through in the end though. It was a long five weeks but I got a new washer and that’s sort of cool. It was sort of worth the hassle.

I had one incident with the dryer before and the people who came out took care of things and fixed it on the spot. They were on their way within a couple of hours. So that was a good experience. We also had an issue with our refrigerator and the contractor then worked it out very well too. The technician said that he happened to have to the parts on the truck, took care of the ice maker and replaced it. He was here a little longer than he expected but no one was at fault. It was just a matter of making sure the repair was done completely. So overall, the experience was three out of three.

People should definitely purchase a home warranty program. I’ve had American Home Shield on two separate homes and my wife and I think it’s a good thing to have. When I called an AC claim in, everybody on American Home Shield's end was fine. They called me back in a timely fashion. But we thought there was a failure in the inside coils. Once we replaced the entire unit though, we found out the actual cause. It was from my roofers.

I just had a brand new roof put on my home and the decking was weak. The main supply line for the Freon was bent and directed to the inside unit right under that decking. So when the roofers stepped on where the decking was weak, the main supply line broke and cracked. So I could have just replaced the little pipe instead of spending about $10,000. But it would have been hard for anyone to find that issue until you went to pressurize the system. When the contractor couldn’t get the brand new unit to pressurize, they had to investigate further. Nonetheless, that company as a whole was super easy to work with. They were very friendly and the owner was great over the phone.

The contractor they sent out was great. He was very, very competent. I had another claim on a different issue but a similar type of refrigerator, which is Sub-Zero. The guys that AHS sent out were far better and more knowledgeable so I was very happy with the service and the turnaround. Also, we had a difficult renter to work with, and they did a great job of working with him and getting the job done even though there was a slight issue, not due to the contractor, but due to the manufacturer of Sub-Zero. They had changed the specification and not told anyone. The techs did a nice job of handling it so I was pleased. Although sometimes it takes a little bit more time than I would like with the turnaround time, I've had very good experience with AHS.

The AC in my rental home suddenly stopped working. The people living there had a lot of problems, so we had to cover two or three days with a temporary AC. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the response was quite good. United Air Temp, the contractor, was professional and came within the time that was given to me. They found the issue correctly and they rectified it immediately. They changed something and the AC was working perfectly fine after that. I've been using American Home Shield for the last three years and I also had some issues with the fridge and the microwave. American Home Shield's overall service has been excellent and so, I'm continuing the subscription.

My dryer wasn't working and the guy AHS sent said it was the door latch that was preventing the dryer to turn on. He said he had to replace that. I called in and they took down all my information, and then I had to go online and do something briefly. They gave me a time frame that the other folks are gonna call me. It was anywhere from 24 to 48 hours, and they did call within the time frame. They had to schedule an appointment for the following week because I called towards the end of the week. But it was pretty quick. The contractor was very polite. He came in and fixed it. I was also kinda impressed because he pulled my dryer out and he cleaned around it as well. I've been a client of AHS for a year and a half or and I never had to use them. This is the first time. If I have any other issues, I would give them a call.

American Home Shield is a fabulous company and I think they're the best. I've talked to other people who have other services and there’s not a huge difference in how they describe what they get done versus what I get. But I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and I'm gonna stick with them because they deserve the premiums that I'm paying. They have really stepped up in my case.

They've been spot on since the very beginning. You call into their 800 number and they're right on the dot as far as getting something going and finding the local contractor that is gonna handle that given item. That happens immediately. That time varies but it's quicker than you might expect. If you just call the contractors, it could take a week. But in this case, they're there. If it's daytime, I get a call from the contractor within hours. They make an appointment when you are able to see them. That is anywhere from one to three days, depending upon what's wrong. If we have a washing machine, a dryer or something in our pool, we would want to get it fixed quicker. If it's something in the furnace, that's important in the cold months. When I had an issue with the heating element of our clothes dryer, the claim was handled really quickly and well. I've never had any delays with American Home Shield.

They have also never failed to have somebody really good as a part of their organization of being an independent contractor. Their swimming pool contractor is a fellow from Minneapolis and he's done a very good job. He's been great. This Omega company that worked on our dryer has also been out here a couple of times and they're really good too. I've never had a problem where somebody’s come in and they've been a dunce. They all know their craft really well and they're excellent at troubleshooting. If you don't get American Home Shield, you're stupid.

Our AC was running but not cooling. We called in a claim with AHS and it was determined that it was low on Freon. The tech who came out was a great guy and I would recommend him. He was very personable and very knowledgeable. He got us organized in no time at all and we got the AC fixed. He also recommended us having a service contract with his company so that they can come out twice a year just to keep the unit running and that was what we agreed to.

Before that, we had a claim for our sprayer on the tap and we were very disappointed with our experience. We never got the problem fixed and I had to go and get a local contractor to come and fix the problem. The guy that AHS sent out was not knowledgeable at all and didn’t know what he was doing. But the contractor that I got looked at it and said that it's a Moen. He said that it’s warrantied for life and gave us the telephone number to call. He told us to order the part, that it was free, and to call him when it comes in. Then there was no problem at all. But I had to pay twice and that was bad. Still, I would recommend AHS based on our last experience for our AC.

The tech was very professional. But, he should park in front of the house and not in the driveway. There are times when he was interfering with the other members of the family entering and exiting our home. He took care of the issue though and I was very pleased with the outcome. The contractor came on time, but then AHS wanted a second opinion so another guy had to come out. They haven't done the repair, however, because AHS said they wouldn’t cover it if it was natural wear and tear of the wire inside the walls -- I don’t wanna roll the dice with them. Also, there was one contractor that never showed up and jerked us around for three or four days. So, we had to request another one on a Friday. American Home Shield has a scam going on with the contractors. I had someone who came to look at my water heater. Based on my policy, replacement of the water heater, insulation cost and removal is covered. The company APC plumbing quoted $619 for modifications (waterline modification $159, T&P mod $135, vent mod $125, water valve mod $125 and gas line mod $75). All the lines and vent are all up to code. I confirmed through multiple other plumbing companies, these modifications are not required since the same type of water heater will be installed. APC plumbing also lied and wanted to charge a disposal fee even though that is covered under the policy. The contractor is trying to scam me in order to make up for the difference from American Home Shield. I don’t want a dishonest company to complete the work. The company indicated $749 to replace the water heater.

Based on American Home Shield, I can either have the dishonest company complete the work, or they would give me a cash in lieu. The amount of a cash in lieu is only $462.48. This is not enough to cover any reasonable replacement cost with any licensed (honest) plumber. This is not even enough to cover the cost of just a cheap water heater.

Then the plumber got here told us nothing was wrong because my husband had to reattach the plumbing so we weren’t without a kitchen sink for 6 days. The plumber told us everything wrong with the plumbing like improper plumbing installation (covered in our contract) a rusted/corroded garbage disposal (covered in our contract). Said the plumbing will detach again but nothing he could do and left.

Cool just spent $75 to be told everything that is wrong. Nothing was fixed and in our contract it’s covered. Called AHS. Even spoke to a supervisor Sam was who said we will just have to wait for it to leak again or get a 2nd opinion. AHS does not care. Literally a waste of $585 for the home warranty because nothing will be fixed and the call center is not useful at all and could care less. Just seems strange that my contract says these items are covered but no one is willing to help us.

Where do I begin? We have yet to receive an official contract so we are at AHS' mercy to rely on what they say is covered and what's not covered. When I call on a Thursday with an emergency plumbing situation, I expect the issue to be dealt with pretty quickly, NOT to be told that the plumber cannot make it for another 4.5 days. Furthermore, I don't expect to call back and request it to be expedited to be told "That is not possible. The plumber is responding within our guidelines." WHAT ABOUT EMERGENCIES?

When the toilet overflows for the 3rd time the following day (Day #2) with dirty, brown water, and we call back to request AGAIN an emergency situation... I do not think it's acceptable to once again refuse to expedite the service. At this point, not only has the situation has become a health code violation, but our floors are ruined because of AHS' negligence. When one of AHS' customer service reps FINALLY agrees to expedite the service late on Day #2, and tells us she will call us back within 30 minutes with the new plumber's contact info, it's unacceptable to NEVER hear back from her.

When we call the morning of Day #3 to once again request the service be expedited, it is not acceptable to be told that the previous night's customer service rep in fact DIDN'T expedite the service. Luckily the customer service rep at this point agreed to expedite the service for the following day. So now we are sitting at Day #4, ruined floors, unusable plumbing throughout the entire house, and brown dirty water everywhere. The plumber who came out was GREAT. Unfortunately, he was unable to correct the problem.

On Day #5 (today), we were supposed to hear back from AHS, and OF COURSE, we haven't heard back from ANYONE. Luckily the plumber has more intellect and knows what good customer service is because he was able to answer the phone today. No, our problem is not solved. No, we still cannot use any of the plumbing in our house. Yes, our floors are ruined because AHS neglected to send out a plumber for an emergency until the 4th call we made to them. Yes, we are dealing with a health code violation because of AHS' neglect and unconcern for their customers. And none of this mentions the fact that other than Day #3, we were on hold on the phone waiting on someone to answer for anywhere between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. AHS clearly does not care for their customers. This is BY FAR the WORST home warranty company I've ever had.

I've been with American Home Shield for 18 years and I've had my good and bad experiences with them. I tried to cancel it once because of an AC claim problem. The contractor told me that I had to change the whole unit and that it was $6,000. I told them I have American Home Shield and they said that was why they were giving me a $1,000 discount. At that time, I was going through a lot of emotional things because my daughter had passed. I was desperate. I just needed something to work because it was way too hot. I told them to go ahead and do it. But I didn't see the point of paying every single month for the warranty and then when I need them, I have to pay that much money on my own.

I called American Home Shield to cancel but they didn't know what had happened. They asked me what I was talking about. Apparently, the contractor told them that they had fixed the unit. But at that point, it had been three months so they couldn't do anything anymore. They told me that next time, I need to call them before. When I started having problems with the second AC unit, I called American Home Shield. The contractor was charging me $9,000. There was no way I was gonna do it. So I wanted to go ahead and find somebody else with a better deal.

American Home Shield told me to go ahead and do it and when I do it, to let them know and to send a receipt. That was what I did. They said they were gonna send me a check only for the repair, not for the whole unit. But I've been waiting for a month and a half. I'm gonna do my numbers and see if it's worth it for me to keep paying this warranty. I had to replace the water heater as well. American Home Shield sent me LGD Plumbing and they charged me too. I paid $750 from my pocket because they had to upgrade all the connections. But it was good. They came and put the new unit in, and it looks like it's working perfectly. I'm happy with that company.

I had AC issues so I submitted a claim to AHS online which was pretty easy. But no one responded for a week so I had to call them. I made two phone calls and the first rep had no urgency. But the second rep helped me out really well and she made it really easy. The contractor came out four days later and the guy was pretty nice.

My neighbor who does AC had already told me what the issue was. It's just that I already have this warranty so I said I would have them fix it and let them do it. When the guy came out, he said that I just needed Freon, which I knew I didn’t. He also said I needed a drip pan because it was leaking through my garage. That was the reason why I noticed it because my whole wall was all just black. I thought it was mold, but it was water leaking and he said he had to order that part. He said he ordered it, but I had to call them a couple times to see what was taking so long because they said that the maintenance company that I’m with had to approve it and it took a really long time.

My neighbor already said that the drip pan was leaking, but that wasn’t the situation. It was something wrong with the coil. When I called warranty program trying to figure out what was delayed and waiting for approval, it was already a week into waiting. It was approved that Wednesday and it had been more than a week by the time they came out. But they said that they would have to charge me $60 for a pound of Freon. I needed four pounds of Freon and a drip pan but the warranty was one to only cover the drip pan. I know I had enough Freon in there because they came out before and they put Freon in it and the guy said I only needed less than a pound. That was a month before. So I didn’t go with the service because I believe that they were trying to milk me for my money. I hate to say that. I just self-paid.

Also, I have a Trane unit, so I only have to be able to buy Trane because they only work with that brand. The amount that AHS charged me for that coil brand new from Trane was the amount of a new unit like a Carrier or a Goodman unit, so I just told them to replace my whole air handler, which was cheaper than just trying to buy a Trane uni. I got tired with a headache when I was with the warranty program. I felt that I was being dragged along and it was like I call patchwork. I’ve been with them for a couple of months. They got a lot of money out of me, but I still didn’t get the service that I needed.

I've had American Home Shield since 2012 when I got the house and when I make a claim, they send it right away to companies but it’s hard to go further. They sent out a technician for my furnace and he tried, but he never fixed it. I was sent another one who tried and did not fix it as well. The techs are good and they speak professionally, but the job could be better or maybe they did their best. AHS is very good too but if the technician tells me the furnace needs to be changed and they refuse it, it’s complicated at that point. AHS always says they feel bad for me, but they never changed my furnace at home. Warranty companies don’t wanna deal with that ‘cause it’s not cheap.

I have recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people. Everyone that I've ever talked to or have come out to the house has been fantastic. But when I'm trying to reach them, there's a long wait on the phone. Then once, it took a while to do my refrigerator. They paid me for the other refrigerator that couldn't be fixed but I already bought a new unit because I had to wait three months during that summer without a refrigerator.

The air was not working and Central Virginia Heating and Air Conditioning came out for it. Navigating through American Home Shield's website was easy and the contractors were here the next day. The young fellow was David and he was very helpful. A mouse had crawled into the air conditioner and he zapped it. Then as he was checking, he found out the AC was low on Freon, so that was an additional problem that we weren’t aware of. We had issues with our furnace too, and the same guy worked on it. I've recommended AHS to my friend in Arlington, and she’s used it and she loves it.

They said that they needed to make sure that I was home but somebody was home. When the contractor came in though, he was able to fix the refrigerator and everything has been operating well since then. Having a warranty is unbelievable. It saves so much money and AHS is worth the money.

American Home Shield is a great service to have. I'm a single parent, so it definitely helps to mitigate cost. I recently filed a claim online and it was fairly easy to navigate their website. A capacitor went out, and the AC was blowing hot air in the middle of the summer. Hospitality Heating and Air came out quickly and resolved it. It was working by the time they left and haven't had a problem since.

I had an issue with a different vendor, Platinum Services, but that was not Home Shield's responsibility. There was a leak in the dishwasher, and the guy from Platinum Services didn't even test it before he left. I asked, "Do you wanna test it?" and he said, "Nope, gotta go. Just call me back and I'll come right back if there's a problem." And immediately, it started leaking, but I found the leak and fixed it myself. Outside of that, it's been a really great experience overall. I have recommended American Home Shield to friends.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield for my washing machine. It doesn't always spin out and sometimes, I have to do a second spin. AHS sent out techs five times. One company came out twice and they charged me the first $100. This is the first time I've used American Home Shield and I did not know that I was supposed to pay the contractor that money. I paid in cash and I got a receipt from him. AHS kept sending me notices that I owe and I kept calling and sending them copies. They said it's okay and I don't owe them.

I called AHS back to let them know that the washing machine is not fixed. They sent out a GE guy who came out thrice. On the third visit, the GE guy put in a little machine and he said it was all he could do. AHS then asked if I wanted them to send out another rep and I told them no and that I didn't wanna pay another $100. They said I won't be charged but I was. I called AHS and they finally got it straight. On my account, it still shows I owe $100 but they said that it's for the people who came out and worked on my garbage disposal. Apart from that, the reps are always wonderful and a contractor comes in within a day or two and does the work as fast as they can.

While everything's working fine, they used the cheapest one they could use when they replaced the faucet. The contractors that they sent were okay but the guy who came for the freezer reeked of smoke. He said he replaced some part but it is still having problems. This has been going on for about a month and I'm not pleased with that. Also, when I set up my account online, I thought AHS was gonna be taking the fee out there but then I'm getting bills for it, saying I hadn't paid. I'm being told I owe another $75. American Home Shield is good when it comes to taking care of business. I call them when I have to submit a claim and they are very thorough. I had an issue and they resolved the job. However, the company that they sent out, Total Air Care, was horrible. I don’t know if the tech was trying to get me to buy a new AC, but it seemed very shady. He was terrible and He installed a compressor and he put the wires on backwards and then he didn’t put in another important piece of the AC. I was very upset about that. Then I called another company, Air Doctor, and I told American Home Shield about it. At that time, I didn’t know if I could ask someone else to come out. But once we got it all situated, American Home Shield clarified it for me. They let me know that I could have asked them to send another company, so it was just a little disconnection. The biggest issue was Total Air Care.

Air Doctor came out and checked the work that Total Air Care had messed up. They eventually were able to fix the problem and I didn’t have to pay for anything else. When one owns a home, they should have a home warranty because it saves us so much money. American Home Shield itself is a great company and the warranty is awesome. I’ve dealt with them with two homes and they have done very well. I wouldn’t trade American Home Shield for anything. I never had an issue with them except for that with Total Air Care. But American Home Shield really has to vet these contractors before they stamp on what these companies do. Still, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I did the dishwasher and the stovetop claims at the same time, and both were great. The technicians came out, looked at it and the dishwasher was fixed on the first visit. As for the stovetop range, they had to order a part so they had to come back the second time which was fine. It was no big deal. They came out and fixed it, and it was super easy. The whole thing worked out well.

The home warranty is a great service. I go online and submit a claim. It's easy. The only challenge is that sometimes you have two issues that are different types so it sucks that I have to pay the fee twice. But I understand that different vendors are coming so that's fine. On the other hand, I got an email once saying that I had not paid the service fee. But I paid both times on the same credit card. I stopped getting those emails though, so maybe those were spam or accident.

The contractors I had dealt with were all great too. My one takeaway is that when using a home warranty, you get way better service. When there was one thing that wasn't covered on the home warranty, I tried to get an outside vendor in to look at it and he was super rude. So I thought I would definitely always use the service through the home warranty. What I like is that the contractors don't just come and look at the problem. They explain everything to me and help explain what I can do to make sure something stays fixed and doesn't break again. All of that has been very helpful. I'm a new homeowner so it's great to get that sort of additional information.

The dishwasher guy particularly was super cool. We didn't want to use the dishwasher because we thought that when it runs for an hour, it uses new water the whole time. He explained that it doesn't actually use new water. It fills up once and then it recycles and pumps the water through the whole time. So we wouldn't have to worry about wasting water and that was very helpful.

In another case, we had a ceiling fan that was needed to be repaired where I was told that one of the options was to cash out and take what American Home Shield would give and buy the fan ourselves. And that took a little while to get taken care of. But the other things that were done were well taken care of. There was also a light switch that needed to be fixed and that was done very quickly. Part of that process was also a smoke detector that needed to be replaced, and we’re still waiting on that one. It’s very easy to file claims with American Home Shield. I pick up the phone or go online, and they generally send somebody who is good at what they do. They listen and take care of the problem. 85% of the contractors are worth the result and when I have an issue, American Home Shield is really receptive. When there is a problem with the person, they send somebody else.

Five months ago, we had a problem with two washing machines at the same time. One was leaking and one wouldn’t go on to one of the cycles and it took forever to get the issue fixed. Only idiots were sent out. They who had no idea what they were talking about and they were spending weeks. I guarantee that they were taking American Home Shield for a bigger ride and they were taking us. I wrote copious letters and American Home Shield got an earful, not because I was angry with them but because they really need to quit using that contractor. They were terrible. Sure enough, American Home Shield sent me somebody else. They fixed the problem immediately and it was an easy fix.

We like American Home Shield a lot. Before we had purchased the new house, we were American Home Shield customers for 30 years. As soon as they opened, we’ve always been American Home Shield customers except when we bought our new house. Everything was brand new and under warranty for a couple of years. So about two years ago, we got back with American Home Shield and I recommend them all the time. You just have to be smart and cooperative and be there when they need you to be there. If you think that you have American Home Shield so that you can get new appliances, then you need to go somewhere else because they fix things.

I had a plumbing issue which was related to the well pump. It was an emergency since I had water from the well in my home. I submitted a claim with AHS through the internet and the next morning, I called them to explain the problem. The rep I talked to was helpful and under understood the problem. Within half an hour, I got an approval in order to move forward, hire some contractor directly, and get reimbursed. Spry Plumbing & Heating came out to fix the problem. Then I sent back a receipt to AHS with some information and the approval number that was provided to me. I did it by email and I got the check at home by mail. The customer service at that time was good. Every single time that I call in, I got an answer and a solution.

On October 18, I also had an issue with my heating system. I went to the AHS portal and the first thing that called my attention there was that it was showing that I have a $100 overdue fee pending. So I called in then someone explained that it was a mistake and that AHS double charged me for the last service. He told me not to worry and that I should open a ticket for that. He also said that they would be cleaning it up and the financial department would confirm it. So, I opened a claim for the furnace through a call since I was not able to open one using the portal due to the pending issue there. Two days after, I was able to contact the provider. A guy visited my home, said that I had a problem with the motherboard, and that they had to replace it. I agreed and he said that he would get the parts and would be here the next day.

But to my surprise, there was another guy who arrived at home the next day. I was expecting to see the guy that was supposed to fix it and it seemed that this other guy did not have any idea about what was happening. He didn’t know the diagnosis. He said that I had a gas leak here in the wall and that he needed to replace it. I told him that it sounded a little weird to me because someone just came here the day before and said it was a motherboard, now he was saying that I have gas leaking. But he was the expert. I was just worried about the gas leak and how long it would take to fix that.

I called AHS right after that second visit as I didn’t understand what was happening because it was a completely different diagnosis. I asked if I could have a second opinion but the person I talked to convince me that it would take more time if we decide to do that instead of just understanding and waiting for the current provider. I agreed, but now, it has been more than two weeks and I still don’t have a solution.

Since then, I kept calling AHS every single day. First, they said that the part would take about a week to be here. So last week I called in and told them that I got the part, but it was the wrong one. So, I needed to order another one. The part was supposed to arrive last Friday and the contractor was supposed to call me yesterday to go back home and fix it. But they didn’t. I called AHS again yesterday and they said that the part was there. They also said that the contractor would call me soon in order to schedule the visit but right now, nobody called me. So, I’m still without heating and I don’t know when I'd have it back. All in all, I had four experiences with American Home Shield and all the other three were excellent. But unfortunately, this one has been a really bad experience.

The microwave was broken and I put in a claim with American Home Shield on their web portal and paid the money. They have a little option to tell them what brand of microwave I have and so I wrote all that down and sent it to them. They would give my information to some contractor in the area. That contractor would contact me to set up an appointment and all of that has been pretty good in general. It seemed to work.

The first guy that came, which was the next day, doesn’t fix microwaves so he sent it back to American Home Shield. They got someone else who said that they couldn't fix the microwave and that they needed some part. They left and never called back. They left their number and I called them, then they never called me back. I waited two weeks and was hoping maybe it was just like the parts thing and it was hard to get. After the two-week mark, I called American Home Shield again and said that this wouldn't work out and that I needed someone else now 'cause there was no point in waiting for that guy. The agent was saying, "Oh, let's give them a call and see if…" and then I told the agent that I don’t want them even if they answer back.

They got me someone else and that person who came by had the part in his car. At this point, before he came, no one knew what the part was. Whatever part that these guys were saying was missing, he was like, "Oh yeah, this should be standard. You should have this, if you're gonna repair things like this." He was knowledgeable and he knew what to look for, like he didn’t know what the problem was but he tested it out, opened it up, identified the part, replaced the part, tested it again, put it back and explained to me the issue and gave me his card, and we're done.

American Home Shield is pretty good. I paid $1,000 and then I pay $75 for a visit. I have a two-year contract so I have to see whether or not if it's gonna be worth that money in those two years. Essentially, the service makes sense, like the way that they set it up, how they contract with the contractors that are coming out. That's fine but one of the failures is that if they have a contractor that doesn’t know what he is doing or how to fix things or at the very least, won't answer his phone, it's gonna make them look bad, so they need to follow up. If they just followed up with me and they followed up with that contractor, then they would have known faster than two weeks that there was an issue.

Also, I like that they text message me almost immediately that they got it, and then they tell me who's gonna call me within 24 hours and when I should expect their call with their phone number. They send the company that they're gonna be using right away, too.

The contractors have all been fine. So far, it's slightly frustrating that they can't make repairs right away because they have to get approval from American Home Shield. But I grasp that it's because of the parts and things of that nature. Also, the Freon is expensive and American Home Shield doesn’t pay for it. And I think they need to make that a little bit more clear on their information. I had two air conditioning units go out last summer and if I had to pay for that out of my own pocket, it'd be about $16,000 versus American Home Shield. I just had to pay more because of the Freon.

One time, I was hoping that they would tell me that my dishwasher was terrible, and they weren't gonna be able to fix it, and they would give me $150 for it. But American Home Shield fixed it. And a lot of times, they're fixing the older appliances that are actually better made. Other than that, I've been very happy with American Home Shield. I tell other people about them. There are just little tricky things, but I'm not giving them up.

Once I found out that my AC wasn't blowing cold air, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the telephone. That day, they told me that someone should be calling me from the company that will be coming to look at it. They, however, did not call me. I even had to give them a call two days afterward. The company then came out, looked at my AC, and they denied me the claim for some reason but they couldn’t explain why. In addition, they came out three days earlier than the appointment that they set and I told them I wasn't gonna be here, and it was not the right day. So we had to reschedule the day that I wanted to. However, that day was already booked up so I had to wait for the following week and get them to get out here. Since my claim was denied, I called AHS back and they notified me that I could have a second opinion.

So I had a second opinion and they told me someone would call. The people in that company called me a day later and I made an appointment for them to come out. When they came out, they said that the unit was unserviceable, and there was no reason that I should be denied the claim. The second company was fantastic. They were in communication with me the whole time and they fully explained to me what was going on and what would be done. They made an appointment to come back, and they replaced the unit. In closing, American Home Shield acts as a middleman. They refer you to the people that’s gonna work in your area. However, if you have any problems with the contractors, it is hard to get back with AHS. Once they refer you, they are hands off for you in a while.

Original review: My pipe burst under my toilet 10/27/18 and I called home warranty about the incident. The remaining of the evening they gave me the run around until they closed for the evening. The plumbing company stated to me that they needed an extra 600 dollars from me because home warranty not going to pay for time and a half so they wanted it from me. I told AHS and that's when they kept telling me to call back. I called early Sunday morning 10/28/17 7 am to report the same incident because of the run around they gave me on Saturday not to mentioned this whole time I'm completely without water in my household.

They sent me to another plumbing company and the company called me and said they wasn't qualified for my type of work on the weekend so they told me I needed to call AHS back and tell them they not doing the job not to mentioned I'm on day 2 without water in my home!!! They would never let me speak to a supervisor throughout the times I talked to them. I finally talk with a supervisor and he did nothing but did the same thing to me as his reps! I am so done with this company. If you don't want to get the run around with something stop working in your home stay away from American Home Shield!

What a disappointment. Being in the military I was stationed all over the country which I carried American Home Shield for many of the homes we lived in. I always paid my dues on time and never caused any issues. Now that retired, after 23 years, a few months ago we moved to Florida and bought a home with a pool. The heater on my pool went out. I called AHS for service and paid my deductible. Turns out I need a full replacement which is about 2 to 3 thousand dollars. They denied me because they said it was chemical related which goes against the hazardous material clause on their contract. I told them of course it’s chemical related because it’s a pool and the water has chlorine. I guess chlorine falls under hazardous material. Then why allow me to add a pool to a warranty?

The person they sent to check my pool crushed the pipes leading to the heater and now I can’t operate my pool. AHS says it’s not their problem and the pool guy they sent won’t fix what he broke. I called several AHS reps and explained my situation. I told them I’m not only a loyal customer of many years, but I’m also a wartime Army Veteran with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. They didn’t care and said they won’t help me. Now I’m out of options and have to not only fix the original problem, but also pay to fix the problem from the technician AHS sent. Customer care is big to me. The fact they used chlorine as an excuse for the hazardous material clause of the contract shows they’ll find loopholes to save from paying 2 to 3 thousand dollars. I’m sad for their lack of ethics and their lack of customer care.

I have a refrigerator and something was wrong with the fan in the freezer section. So the contractors came and they put a piece in. They replaced it. But then, within 24 hours, everything melted in there. I called them back, so the guy came and he put in the old piece. He cleaned it out and it was working. He said he'd come back and would order a new piece. For somebody to come out for the same problem, I should only be charged once. But the customer service was telling me, “No, this, that and the other thing.” This was an issue that I thought one time and that’s it. If it’s their fault, why should I pay another service charge? The contractor was blowing me off too. That was the only issue that I’ve had with AHS though. With the oven, the contractors came out, and AHS is gonna replace the oven. They'll pay $681 and I'll pay the difference and they'll install everything. AHS is good and they do come out.

About 14 months ago, we had a need to replace our AC unit upstairs. The contractor from American Home Shield was not rated well at all when we looked it up online, so we opted to go with another company even though we had the warranty with American Home Shield. AHS gave us a credit towards using another contractor and we got somewhat of a reprieve from what the total cost would have been.

About a month ago, we had a problem with our other air conditioning unit on the main level. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the process was simple. I just indicated what type of appliance was in need of repair but their website didn't allow for any specifics to be noted. Then, a contractor came and fixed the unit. He replaced a part and that seemed to do the trick. But the AC ran for about an hour and was cut again. So, I re-called AHS by phone and I was on hold for less than an hour before somebody finally came on. On a number of occasions where I've had to call them, their answering time seems to be a big problem with them.

Then, the contractor returned the following day, did a lot of trouble-shooting, and found an obscure cause of the problem. I give him credit for that because it was not a run-of-the-mill item. There were some wires that frayed over a period of time and those wires shorted the part that he put in. So he replaced the wires and we have not had a problem since. The contractor was very good and very personable. He knew his job and went right to work. All in all, we have American Home Shield for a few years now and we also had unpleasant experiences with them. For instance, we had an issue which had to do with their service personnel. However, they have good turnover so that changes from time to time. But based on our recent experience with the AC, we're satisfied with American Home Shield.

When you buy a new home, everything just seems to happen in the first year. We have a dishwasher that's not working. AHS couldn't fix it and couldn't replace it. We needed the Purchasing Department and they have certain hours, and the hours that I've been able to call had been on hold so long. I can't get in touch with them in order to do the replacement which was very frustrating.

Submitting claims on the phone is terrible. I've sat on the phone a couple of times, till almost an hour. I had to hang up because I could not wait any longer for their Replacement Department. On the other hand, if you submit your claim online, it's really easy. They get to call back and they schedule. It's been good to have the stuff fixed that we needed to be fixed and I was pretty happy with the experiences that were positive. There was one contractor that came for two different issues and did a great job. However, the other experiences were frustrating. We had one incredibly bad experience with a contractor they sent out where we ended up having to find an entirely new piece of equipment because whoever they sent out, scratched the serial number off and we were unable to replace it because we didn't know what it was.

I realized that the AC was running which I thought was strange. So, I went upstairs to see what it was set on and it shouldn't have been running. I turned it off but it still kept running. I called AHS to file a claim and the contractor they sent out said that there was a loose wire inside the air conditioner that was grounding itself out inside the casing and that was causing it to run all the time. Also, he said that the motor that had burned out because it had been running had to be replaced. He got in contact with AHS to get the okay to replace it and got one of those in order. Then, he came back and replaced it. The issue was taken care of pretty quickly and it's all fine now. I’m very, very glad that my Realtor advised that I get a home warranty. I was kinda skeptical because I had never had one before. But AHS has been really good and helpful and I feel very pleased that I got it.

He went through it, said that everything was okay, and showed us exactly how to light it. Submitting a claim at American Home Shield is very easy. I go online and I submit it. I get texted right away, and they contact a technician that will be on their way. I got a great technician for the air conditioner. However, there's an issue that I have with a technician that came out last week who was very unprofessional, to the point where a couple of days after the technician was fixing our water heater, our garage started to smell like gas. We called the gas company, and they came out and said, “Everything about this situation is unprofessional. I need to shut you guys down.” So, they shut down our water heater.

I called American Home Shield to let them know of the situation. I had to wait a couple of days for another company to come out. The technician that came said, “I agree with the gas company. Nothing about this is correct. It’s gonna cost more to fix the problem than to just get you a new water heater. I’ll submit the report to American Home Shield.” I called AHS yesterday after waiting an hour on the phone, and the person who was helping me didn’t know anything about the situation. I asked, “Am I gonna be hearing from someone, or do I need to keep calling you guys and waiting an hour on the phone?” The rep said, “Someone should be contacting you within the next 48 hours.”

So far, I have not heard from American Home Shield. It’s been a headache of a process and I feel like I have to always be on top of them. I have to put my work aside to call them and to wait in line for them to receive my call, and once I receive the call, the operators are not knowledgeable. I have made it a habit to constantly ask them, “Please make sure you put this in the note for when I talk to an operator tomorrow ‘cause I know I will, and they have to go back.”

Our AC stopped cooling in the house. Over a couple of days, we noticed it. I checked the circuit breakers and everything that I could do myself, and reset things, but it didn’t fix the problem. So, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. A tech came out and immediately diagnosed that it was the motor on the outside unit. He had the part and he replaced it. Within an hour and 15 minutes, he had the system back up and running, and we were cooling. We also have a microwave light that was not working, and I’ve replaced the bulb until I figured I'd just call it in. I diagnosed it down to being the circuit board, and that was several hundred dollars to repair. That part cannot be found by the local service technician, and I have to wait 7 to 10 days to find out the final verdict.

Our contractors have been great. They’ve been prompt and they ask questions. They don’t second guess when I tell them what I’ve done to diagnose and what my thoughts are. They don’t come back and they start to question that. I told the tech that I’ve dealt with for the microwave, “I replaced the light bulb. I’ve put a volt meter to the socket, checked there was no voltage.” Those are the exact same steps he would’ve done. He said, “I’m not gonna waste your time, and I’m not gonna waste my time. Let me go ahead and submit the claim for the circuit board.” That’s been the experience with every single one of the technicians. I’d highly recommend American Home Shield. The coverage pays for itself.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield is awesome. The only thing not awesome, however, is getting through when we’re trying to call. I had a claim for some appliances and the first time I called, I had to wait for an hour. Their contractor then came out and looked at everything. He fixed what he could fix and told me that he had to order parts for the other items. He said he had to check with my warranty company if those were covered, and then he would order the parts. I didn't know what the protocol was, as this is my first home and first home warranty, but no one ever called me. So I called AHS two weeks later to see what was going on and they told me that the contractor should have called me to set up an appointment. They also said that the part was coming in on Thursday of that week, so I thought maybe the contractor was gonna wait till they got the parts before calling me.

In addition to that, my washing machine needed to be replaced but no one had said anything about that needing to be replaced. I thought it was getting parts as well. So when I talked to AHS they said it had to get replaced, and they passed me over to their replacement department. I also waited an hour when they did that. But at that time, I could not wait any longer so I hung up. And then, I called again this week because no one still has called me. Finally, after waiting two hours to get through the first person, the lady explained everything that was going on. I thanked her and then she passed me to the replacement group. I then stayed on the phone from 6 o'clock until I finally got help from someone at 6:50. The guy was very kind and helpful. He said he would call me back once he got approval to replace the washing machine, but no one called me. He called me back on Monday, and then, stuff started to happen.

Everyone that I talked to at AHS has been great. I think they know people are waiting for hours, so they're extra kind, which I appreciate. They're also very responsive when we get in contact with them. And then, their contractors have been punctual and knowledgeable. They talk, which is great because some people don't. With the recent one we had though, I would have appreciated if they called to tell me that they had ordered the parts, when those parts would arrive and that they were gonna call me back for a schedule.

I had water leaks coming down to the bottom part of the sink in the middle of our new house's cooking area. Every time we used the faucet, water was just pouring down. At first, I thought it was a plumbing issue. I paid $25 out of my pocket for a plumber to come in and tell me what was wrong because it may require for the drain pipe to be changed. I didn’t know that American Home Shield would cover the repair. But the plumber told me the problem was not the pipe. It was the garbage disposal that was faulty. I told him that I have warranty and he said that the warranty company should be able to handle the repair. I was pleasantly surprised. But he said that he didn’t represent me so that was when I made the call to American Home Shield.

The plumber and the contractor American Home Shield sent, Hardy Plumbing Co., assessed exactly the same thing. The connections of a faulty garbage disposal in the sink weren't working and water was dripping through one of the connections down to the bottom part of the sink. The person who attended to my claim was very conscious. He explained very well what needed to be done, went out to obtain the parts, came back, put it in, tried it and waited for water to be processed through. So far, it's working perfectly.

I have to be patient when submitting a claim though. I have to wait until at least a day to acquire the services of a representative and have them come in. But I don’t think that's an inconvenience. It's nothing to be concerned about and I'd still recommend American Home Shield. In fact, my son's buying a new house now and he'll be contacting this company as well.

American Home Shield's agents have been very nice and professional. However, one day I was left on hold for 45 minutes and I hung up. I was not happy with that and that didn't happen just once. But it was the longest time I had to wait. AHS needs to work on not putting people on hold that long. It's ridiculous when I call and I'm left on hold for so long so many times. But the techs they have sent out have been great so far. They came out to fix my icemaker and it worked for a little while. Then, I called AHS to have my refrigerator fixed because it started thawing out. The contractor came in a timely manner and fixed the unit.

But I called AHS on October 17th because my icemaker froze up again. They were gonna send someone out, but the service call I requested fell through the cracks and no one came out. I called AHS again this morning and they picked up right away. At the moment, I'm waiting for the call for the technician who's coming back out to fix my icemaker.

I had American Home Shield for five years and I am no longer with them. I heard that for the air condition purpose, they stopped giving unlimited Freon. They limit it to 1 pound. My cousin had the same problem and he had to come up with almost $1,800 from his pocket. So I decided I should find somebody who don’t have those restrictions. But submitting claims with them online had been easy and most of their contractors were professionals.
