Our furnace was blowing cold air and I filed a claim to American Home Shield online. They responded in 24 hours and sent out RI-Tar Enterprises. The first time they came out, their guy fixed the igniter and it corrected the problem for about 10 days. Then, the furnace went out again and he couldn't find the problem but suspected that something else was getting ready to break. He told me to shut down the furnace and restart if it happens again. After doing that three times in a course of a weekend, we had them back out and the guy came out and fixed the smart sensor. Our heat is working properly now. I was pleased with RI-Tar.

My microwave, which is part of a combined microwave/oven wall unit, began rusting and peeling inside about 8 months ago and now has grown to several spots. Upon researching this online I found 5 websites saying it’s time to replace, they are unsafe. I called AHS on September 24th to ask for service for the claim. Their selected company, National Platinum Service called that day and the technician was at my home on the 26th. The unit was so old there was no readable serial number or model on the metal plate. He took photos, called his boss and forwarded the photos to him. He left saying he was going back to do the report to AHS and they would be sent to them that day or the next. I waited 10 days before I called AHS because I had heard nothing from them. I was told they did not receive any information from the vendor yet, but they would contact them.
About a week later they had not called, so I called them back. I got the SAME answer! I called the next week and again was told they had not received any information from the vendor, but when I got angry, she said she would put me on hold while she contacted the vendor. She said she reached them and they were faxing the report. While we were still on the phone she said she received it, and she was forwarding it to the department it needed to go to. That phone call was over 45 minutes because I was on hold so long. When I asked when I could expect to hear from AHS about what they were going to do, she said she didn’t know, there was no timeframe for them to respond!!!
I have waited 2 weeks for a call and finally called again today and was told THEY HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE VENDOR! I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for 22 minutes waiting. He said there were no notes in the file about anyone contacting the vendor or any vendor response. I was livid by this point. I told him I have been a 4 year customer and I have kept my responsibility by paying my premium on time, what kind of responsibility did they have to me to uphold their end of the contract? Why weren’t they proactively pursuing the report since they initiated it? Why is no one in the customer service department making notes in my file to indicate who had done what and planned any follow up?
The supervisor could not reach the vendor, had to leave a message... so here we are 6 weeks from the first call-no microwave to use-no resolution or even idea how or when I might have one. I am paying these con-artists $52 a month. The only thing they have done is put a new motor in a 30 year old air conditioner that has looked like it was on its last leg when I bought this home, and replaced 2 lines on the newer unit. Those repairs were taken a care of in about a week. I paid the $75 or $80 charge each time someone has come to look at anything whether they fix it or not. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I bet you aren’t on hold when you call to sign up with them, but you can count on long ones if you call for service!
Good morning Mrs. Rogers,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent American Home Shield service claim. Per the review, you have experienced a delay in service to have the microwave repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I can’t tell if AHS is legit or a scam... so far the service is the pits! On 10/12 Friday evening I noticed my freezer foods starting to thaw... I wasn’t sure if it was an issue yet so I moved the food to a deep freezer and turned up the dial to max and checked the next morning. I could see it wasn’t recovering and the fridge was starting warming up too. On 10/13 I went online and put my service order in and paid my $75.00 deductible. By Monday, over 48 hours later, I noticed I haven’t received any emails and my deductible payment wasn’t processed. I called and waited a long time until I got rep. I pointed out I put in a service and paid a deductible and wanted to know when I would be assigned a service provider... she checked and set me up for service again, I suspect so it would look like they were still in their time frame.
She offered Sears or GE... it would be a week before either service provider but she offered me to find my own. I was still talking to her and went on GE site and could get a service provider by the next day 10/16 but hers say a week from Tues 10/23. I was not looking forward to a week without my fridge so we settled on Sears (ugh, I know why they went bankrupt) who could come on 10/18. On that day Sears guy shows determines it's a leak in the Evap system (?) calls in and orders parts. Then tells me the parts will be relieved to my house and he will be back 10/30 to install. Wait? What? That’s a long time without a fridge.
His suggestion, rent a fridge at $30.00/week. No! Anywho, parts arrive 10/25 and when he showed up on 10/30 he says “These aren’t the right parts," so he reorders and tells me 11/15 will be when he comes back but gave me his number just in case they come in early. He will try to come back early. 11/2 a large box arrives and I try calling the service techs number and left a message, I tried texting him and he responded with a text he would check his schedule. That’s it.
Have tried calling him and texting today and left another message. I’m sick of calling AHS cause there is nothing they can do... so at this point I’ve been without a refrigerator for 23 days and that gets expensive to buy ice and shop every day. I out $75.00 deductible, and they just took their $64.99 monthly from me. And I have to wait until 11/15 to see if the right part arrived and my fridge can be repaired. That will be 33 days without a working fridge... and that’s if the right part was ordered and he can repair it. Like I said AHS and Sears are the pits... don’t do it! I could have taken all the money I have spent on monthly fees and deductibles and purchased a new fridge.
Good morning Ms. Checkley,
I understand your concerns and frustration regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have the refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution to complete the repairs.

I had an A/C claim this summer. AHS sent incompetent service providers. After four failed attempts to repair the system, they finally they sent a competent service provider who fixed the issue. The incompetent people made the problem worse. Driving up the price of the repair to $2,672. The coverage is only $1,500. AHS refuses to pay the competent contractor the additional $1,100 so I now owe him that money. Does anyone know the name and address of AHS or their Registered Agent? I now must sue them in small claims court.
Good morning Mr. Muskat,
I understand your concerns regarding your air conditioner service claim and the non covered cost to have the repairs completed. I would be glad to speak with you and address the cost in an effort to get the repairs resolved.

My experience with this company was horrible. My water heater went out and I've been going back and forth with this company about my warranty. They only called one company for repair quotes. I paid $100 for the repair visit. The tech informed me that it couldn't be repaired and that I would need to pay $538 for permits etc. At this point, I'm paying insurance which cost me $638. I've been placed on hold for a total of approximately 5 hours. I've spoke with over seven reps. from this company, still no resolution. American Home Shield is an AWFUL company!!!
Good morning Ms. Vance,
I understand your concerns regarding the non covered cost to have the water heater replaced through your American Home Shield warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the repairs completed.

My water heater stopped producing hot water and I put in a claim with American Home Shield. The tech came and it was great. He showed up on time, was a real professional and knew exactly what was going on. I showed him the hot water heater and he went to work immediately. He told me what was probably the cause, checked it out and it was exactly what he said it was. He replaced the core and some other stuff and the heater was working the same day. Other than the time it took to repair the heater, he was pretty quick. I always recommend AHS and I tell my friends I don't have issues with them. They are good with notifying people to come to fix what needs to be fixed. Also, the contractors call me the next day and come in a reasonable amount of time.

We have been with American Home Shield for seven years. We never had an issue that wasn't resolved and it was resolved very quickly. However, it is sometimes difficult to get a hold of their reps on the phone. Sometimes, you are on hold for 30 minutes before you can get to speak to somebody. But, once you get to talk to someone, they are very professional and things get handled quickly. Other than that, we had, over the years, a number of minor plumbing issues. And we have always asked for John & John because we have had good experiences with them. We had a heat pump that went out, and recently, my hot water heater started leaking. The quality of work done by John & John was great.

We've had American Home Shield for years and years. We own three properties and we have AHS on all three. When we came home from work and the AC unit wasn’t working, I tried resetting breakers and did all the sort of normal stuff. We tried to submit the claim online, but it wasn’t working. I somehow got a chat session up with American Home Shield and the rep allowed me to submit the service request by chatting because the website was not working. We would like American Home Shield to fix their website. It is terrible and it does not do anything for us. Every time we log in, it doesn’t have our name there. It says, “Enter your property address.” We do that, but it says, “You have no contract,” although we have three contracts. We put in an issue with American Home Shield to have the AC looked at on October 13th, but it is still not fixed as of today and it has been terrible.
AHS was very quick in providing us with a local contractor, who contacted us within 24 hours, then came to the house within 24 hours and identified the part to be a compressor. He contacted AHS within two hours to order the compressor. American Home Shield had to order the part from whatever their resources were and now a month later, the repair people don’t have the part. They have been over the top responsive, but we’ve been on hold with American Home Shield all the time. They do not pick up the phone automatically.
The other day, I waited an hour and 40 minutes for them to pick up the phone. Once I got somebody on the phone, they transferred me and hung up. I called back and I was on the phone for an hour and 30 minutes. They picked up the phone and hung up on us. I called back and waited for 35 minutes. I finally got somebody on the phone and they said they would look into it and call us back, but we never got a callback.
We’ve had no issues with Strickland's Heating and Air that has been the waiting for the part. American Home Shield has not provided us with any information. Their response to us was, “We have ordered the part, and it was shipped.” In return, that is a lie because they could not provide us with a tracking number. The second time, they told me, “We ordered the part and we don’t have a tracking number yet.” The part was gonna be sent to them in Memphis, Tennessee and when they receive it in three to five business days, then they would send it to Strickland's Heating and Air, which will take three to five business days. Then, Strickland's Heating and Air will contact us to set up an appointment. We told them, “Well, thank you very much because that will put us in December. So how would you like us to do this?” They still could not tell us anything.
When I called this morning, they finally answered. I was talking to the rep and I said that I was really upset and that if it is not fixed, we are gonna cancel all three accounts. This is ridiculous. The rep said, “Well, okay. I’ll put you on hold.” She put us on hold for a minute and she came right back on, but whoever it was she needed to get information from wasn’t available. She said, “How about you call back in about an hour?” I’ve been waiting for over an hour to get her on the phone so I said, “Are you serious? You want me to call you back, wait another hour, so that you can tell me what the status is? I have an idea. How about you get the information, and call me back.” On the other hand, the contractors have been very responsive and have always been right there. They are trying to find out where American Home Shield is getting the part from because they know of local people here that they can get the part from.
Good afternoon Rae and Sandra,

I've got two claims going at the moment and neither one of them are over. One of them has been ongoing since the first of October. So I'm not too happy with the whole thing. The contractor started out by trying to fix my freezer door, and they said a part needed to be ordered. But that part has never come in. And every time I call, they say it's supposed to be in in a few days. But then, it keeps going on and on. They were also supposed to fix my washing machine and they said that there is one part of it and said the motor was dead and that they have to order it. I haven't heard anything about it now. I called American Home Shield about it but they didn't request that they would get somebody else. They should hire somebody that's more reliable.

AHS sent Joan's Electronics for our washer. The claims process was amazing. It turned out they were able to get the parts. I called to follow up, and they said if the washer was in stock, this would be how long it would take. I didn't know there were options and we've opted for them to replace the washer on a Tuesday, and I had it that Friday. The contractor was very good. They were in and out in no time. I'm very happy with AHS.

Submitting a claim online to American Home Shield is a heck-of-a-lot easier than calling them and waiting on hold forever. Then, when something was not working right with our pool, AHS got us SunBright Pool Services really fast and who called us within a couple of hours. The contractor came out the next day. We were home the whole time they did the work. They cleaned up the pool and did a good job. I love them. But the contractor had to get a part so he had to come back. He was knowledgeable and super nice. We needed the pool cleaned otherwise we could not go swimming. I am very satisfied with American Home Shield. Having a home warranty is great and a smart thing to do if you have an older home so I referred my clients to have one.

My air conditioner quit cooling and I couldn't live with that. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and it was a holiday but the techs from Greenway Home arrived within 24 hours. They had to put two pounds of Freon and AHS paid $10 per pound, so I was charged $20 for that. I thought I was overcharged by Greenway and the cost was never adjusted.
I also had a claim for my ice maker in November of last year and the tech took ten days to come out. He brought his son with him and he was having a lot of problems. I felt a little sorry for him and my son fixed them dinner. The tech even ordered a new ice maker, but he didn’t put it in. And when I called again, AHS told me that I had to pay for another claim for the man to come back out. But I explained to them that the issue wasn’t fixed and the man was having problems.
It took him another 10 days to 2 weeks to come back and the next time he came out, he said that the ice maker was not repairable. In the end, AHS replaced the refrigerator with a brand new one. They sent me an email and I had to choose one. It wasn't like I could go out and pick whatever I wanted but I got a nice one and it was delivered by Sears. AHS covered all of it but I had to pay the $75 service cost each time the tech came out. Even so, I am pleased with the new refrigerator. Other than that, I had my washing worked at and when my dryer had a leak somewhere, AHS' contractor fixed that. It just took them a while to do so. So, AHS needs to expedite the timing of getting things done with their contractors. It's also hard to get people with them. But I like AHS and I would recommend them to everybody.

There was a break in my drainage, and I couldn't use my washing machine because the water was coming in from my kitchen floor and sink. And where the pipe was corroded caused the water to go out to the back porch and washroom. When I submitted my claim to American Home Shield, they emailed and had me scheduled with a plumber for an appointment. But I wasn't at home so I didn't get it until late that night. They gave me a second appointment and when they called, I was at home. The plumber got in touch with me a couple of days later and he came at the time they said he was gonna be.
At first, I thought that it was my washing machine that was leaking. But after the plumber did an investigation, he found out that it wasn't. He found out that it was a breakage on my line in the floor, so he had to notify American Home Shield and get it approved. Once we got it approved, AHS sent us the plumber that could take care of it, and everything went smoothly. In the end, although I had to cease the washing for about a week, they did a good job repairing the breakage. I was very pleased with my experience with AHS.

I had three different claims with American Home Shield. One was for a refrigerator that was leaking water and the issue was resolved. Another claim was for the dryer button that could not be pushed or pulled to turn to get started, and I also had a claim for the microwave light not working. When I put the claim in, their reps scheduled an appointment for the worker to come out. However, whenever I make a claim online, the reps automatically ask for my credit card information. The technicians who were in my home were very professional and very pleasant. Once, a technician came and did the work but he had to come back on an additional trip for one work because he needed a part.
I used to have another warranty provider company but the process of American Home Shield is a lot easier. I am able to the process online and their reps had the people contact me. There is one point of contact versus in the other company where I had to call multiple people and I did not like that. I have referred a friend to American Home Shield because of the streamlined process as well as how thorough their technicians were.

But we ended up paying a little extra ‘cause we paid so much for the Freon. It took more than what they paid for. But everything else went fine. The contractor was very good and cordial. He looked at the washing machine, ordered a part, came back about two days later and had it working. Since he looked at it, I haven’t had any issues with it. This is the second time I’ve gotten to use Comanche Appliance. They’ve worked on a dishwasher issue before and every time that I’ve had them come out, they’ve been really well. The claim submission process of American Home Shield both online and over the phone are fairly easy. I only had one bad experience with them when I called for the sink that wasn't draining. I disconnected the gooseneck and the guy who came told me that when I did that, it wasn't under warranty because it wasn't in the sink anymore. Then I had a claim for my stove and a technician from GE was sent out. He seemed to be very knowledgeable into his work and was professional in every way. He wanted to make sure that I understood what the problem was, what he was gonna do to repair it, how he was gonna repair it, and that might take a little extra time for a part to come out. We had an issue with our pool and we submitted a claim with AHS. We do that online 90% of the time and their website is pretty easy to use. But for this claim, we had a less than great experience with one of the vendors that was the first choice for doing things for the pool. It wasn't like he didn't know what he was doing on the pool. It was just like pulling teeth trying to communicate with him and he was not somebody that I really wanted to work with again. It would've been nice if online, you could request and see who was gonna call or text you before they actually contact you. Because it was a little awkward to have somebody contact you and you didn't like them. So, it’d be nice if AHS would tell you who’s gonna contact you, so you could say if you want another vendor.
We talked to somebody at American Home Shield and we asked for somebody else to come and everything was fine with the other vendor that they sent. So, we ended up getting the pool fixed just fine. Also, one of the reasons that we weren’t super happy with the original tech that came out was that we had five visits for the pool that year and all the problems that we had all kinda stemmed from one thing. But nobody really caught it. They only came and looked at exactly what was wrong and didn’t look at the whole pool system. If they would've figured out that the pool pump that we had was much too powerful for the rest of the equipment, then all this other stuff wouldn’t have broken. So, that was a little bit frustrating. The tech that we weren’t really pleased with finally found it. But he had been here three times before and it was the first time that he noticed that.
Yesterday, we filed another claim with American Home Shield Yeah for an electrical issue and we have somebody coming today to look at the pool. We’re trying to figure out if the electrical problem that we’re having inside has to do with the pool electrical problem as well. We blew a fuse in one of the bathrooms and one of the electricians that we talked to on the phone suggested that they might be related. But their pool guy comes today, and the electrical guy comes on Thursday.
Other than that, we’ve gotten our money’s worth from AHS. We were seriously considering not renewing for the second year because we thought we’ve gotten everything fixed that was a little bit older in our house. Then at the last minute, we decided to go ahead and do it. I’m glad that we did it because we would've ended up spending a lot more money already this year. I would recommend AHS to others depending on the age of their home. If they have a brand-new home and everything is new and not quite as likely to break down, I would tell them that maybe they should get AHS. But anybody who’s got a home that’s at least a couple of years old is gonna end up needing to fix or replace something. With AHS, you usually earn your money back if you’d call them once or twice a year.

The ice maker in the refrigerator door stopped working and GE Appliances came out. The tech that came out was phenomenal. He was very considerate, and very polite. He is probably in the top one or two of all the techs that we have had over the course of my life. He explained what was going on and what to expect. There is a heater that comes on periodically and they believed that the heater stopped working. The tech used the heat gun and he was careful not to melt the heater inside the door. It defrosted the water that was frozen in the lines, but he said it was gonna happen again if the heater wasn't working, so they ordered the part.
The local warehouse didn't have the part, though, and the tech didn't know it when he was here. He ordered it on a Friday and it took about three weeks for the part to get here. They were waiting for the part to come into the warehouse, but when I called, there was none. They may even haven’t any one order from the GE warehouse, so they had to get it from another warehouse and they shipped it to the local warehouse. They had to check it in and they put it in inventory, and they had to ship it out by truck. It took about three weeks to get the ice maker fixed and it was the GE warehouse's fault.
I asked why they didn't call another warehouse if they didn't have the part, but they said that it was not the way their system works and that they wait for them to come in. I asked when they were coming in and the rep said that there was none on order that time. I said that their system sucked and I asked when they were gonna get it. She said she didn't know and that nobody ordered it yet. When the tech came, he apologized and put the part in, but I told him that it wasn't his fault.
It's a new house and they came with GE appliances, but the dishwasher had to be replaced before we came in because it wasn't working. The stove broke down a year ago and the keypad went on it. The tech asked if I boil water on the back burner and I told him sometimes depending on what I'm cooking. He told me not to ever boil at the back because there is nowhere for the steam to go. The steam and humidity go in the back part of the stove and it shorts out the keypad. When the tech came, he knew what it is. He reset the keypad and it worked. However, it didn't work three days later. It kept showing codes and things and it was blinking like 700 degrees start, but nothing was happening. It was going haywire, so I called up the tech. He said that he was gonna order the part. He came in when he got the part and took the old motherboard out. He put the new motherboard in and it was fixed, and I haven't had a problem.
Every GE appliance we have in the house has broken down except for the microwave and the tech told me usually, the microwave is the first one to go because it's above the stove and it sucks up all the moisture from when I am cooking things and boiling water on it. But he told me never to boil water on the back burners and to always use the vent channel on the microwave to suck all the air up. If not, the microwave keypad will go too.
It took American Home Shield two days short of three weeks to get my air conditioner fixed during the summer. About two weeks ago, I was in Florida and I had people from World Class AC come. They had to order a part. The tech came and put the part in, but they sent him the wrong part. He had to order it again, but they didn't have any in stock, so they had to order from whoever they got it from. By the time he could fit me into his schedule to put the part in, it was another week. Also, American Home Shield asked if I wanted to pay that time or after the service was done. I always say, "Pay after the service is done," but they charged me the day I ordered the service and it took them almost three weeks to get it fixed. Their customer service sucks.
I talked to one lady and complained about the service for the air conditioning and she said, "At least you have an air conditioner. The people up in the Panhandle Florida -- They don't have any, so consider yourself lucky." I'm paying American Home Shield about $600 a year plus $100 a call, and she told me to feel lucky. I don't think so. I'm looking around for somebody else.

I had a leak under the kitchen sink and apparently, it was the disposal where some pipes weren’t done right and it was what it ended up being. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online but when I can get a hold of somebody, I’d rather do it by talking. But too much of the time, it’s hard to get through on their line. The contractor that came out from Pipe Solutions was very professional and nice. He did a good job and cleaned up. He did everything he was supposed to do and the service went well. American Home Shield has been a great company to work with.

A man from Sears came out to fix our refrigerator that was not defrosting. We told him what was wrong and what parts he needed and he charged $100 for a diagnostic. He was here for 10 minutes and we were so aggravated that he was gonna charge AHS almost $400. That was a lot of money, but he sufficed it. We had to wait another week and a half for him to come back. He was supposed to come on Friday, so I took off work and sat there all day then he called at 3:15 to say that he was sick and wasn't coming. They rescheduled it for Tuesday, which is today. I talked to the Sears scheduler and she said he would be at our house between 3:00 and 5:00 so we didn't have to take off work. The tech said that the part that he had replaced was not working so he put another part in. It had been two and a half weeks total. We're gonna keep our fingers crossed that that did it.
Sometimes it's a little hard to understand the AHS reps when I file claims over the phone. I wish they were from America. We had trouble with our air conditioning unit at the beginning of the summer and Mcgrew Electric was sent out. The warranty specialist who came was the nicest man. He has been to our house twice with that unit this summer and we could not have asked for a better, very professional person. Overall, my experience with AHS has been really good so far.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield when our dryer was not drying. Their contractor came out fairly quickly, and I had a very good interaction with them. However, it took a while to get someone back out. But it was all reasonable. They had to order parts and I had things going on, too. The dryer has been operating well since then. I had a less positive experience with a different contractor for the water heater, but it got fixed. Having AHS's warranty has been worthwhile.
Great Ann! I'm glad that we were able to resolve your issue. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great week.

We've been with American Home Shield for a long time and used them for a good 20 years. We have more than one property with them and they’ve always been very attentive to us. We’ve sent them a bunch of customers and friends. We have split AC units here and when the motor on one of them went out, I called AHS. They have fantastic reps who are right to the point. They get the information and before the 24 hours pass, I get a call from the service people.
AHS is superb. For this particular AC claim, we just had the tail-end of a hurricane, and Warren-Hay Mechanical Contractors were really up to their neck in alligators. But they were out here within a couple of days. I told AHS the last time that Warren-Hay were the people that came before and we were very satisfied with them. If they were available, we preferred for them to come. The rep looked and said they were. Warren-Hay has been sent out here thrice. I normally request this contractor because there was one contractor, Harbor Mechanical, that AHS sent out that I didn't find satisfactory. I spoke AHS to never to send them back out here.
Hi, Bernard. Thank you for that positive feedback. I apologize that you had an issue with one of our contractors but am glad to know that we were able to place them on a refused vendor list at your request.

I submitted a claim through the phone with American Home Shield for my water heater and the whole transaction was really smooth. I tried to do it online but it was easier for me to talk to their reps. They told me exactly what to do. They also told me that they had somebody scheduled to come out the following Monday. The guy came out and he was really knowledgeable. He told me what the problem was and replaced the part. He also told me about certain things to look out for as far as turning on the water heater. He knew that I wanted to learn how to fix things so I can do it myself. Overall, the repair took an hour. I'm a new homeowner and I'd recommend American Home Shield to anybody buying a new house. It's really a handy insurance to carry and I found it to be immensely beneficial for buying the house.

We have two-zone heating in our house and the thermostat was old. In the lower level, it would no longer switch from off to cool, so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I then got an automated response and I was able to follow the prompt to tell them what was going on. They came back to me almost immediately to tell me the name and phone number of the provider that would be contacting me to do the work and they automatically debited the $75 fee at my request. AHS chooses the provider and I am not able to choose my own plumbers. However, it has worked out for me every time and I’ve never had a bad experience with any of their providers.
Clifton Heating, the contractor that they sent, was very good. They replaced quite a bit of my furnace last year and it was something that wasn’t covered under the warranty because it was due to lack of maintenance. It was the only time I’ve ever had anything denied from American Home Shield. This time, Clifton was here the next day and replaced the thermostat. The way American Home Shield works is as long as an item can be repaired, they will repair it. If not, then they will replace it. Clifton did exceptional work and I’ve used them all the time without question. They even sent me a handwritten thank you note after.

There was a bad control board in our clothes dryer and after we contacted them, the tech was out within a couple of days to look at it. He diagnosed the problem very quickly then he ordered a part. As soon as the part came in, he came back and fixed the dryer. So it was back in working order in about a week and we've had no problems since the repair.

I called American Home Shield to make a claim when my dishwasher quit. I told the rep what had happened and she scheduled Dale's Appliance Repair Inc to come out. They came out and fixed it right quick. When I first signed up with American Home Shield, I bought this house and I didn't know what kind of heating system I had or air conditioning. I thought it was a heat pump, but it turned out it was not. It is natural gas on my heat and electric on my air conditioning. But, I called in to make sure they all had it down right on the records and I was told that I was covered on both of them.
I had a contract with them before this house. When I bought this one out, I tried and went over to this one with them. But, on the last claim I had, when I called in for a repair on my air conditioning, it took three or four days before I heard anything and that was not good. I had two or three calls down here on my other house, and every time, it was the same thing. It ain't very good for a 75-year old like me and my wife who is 77, and we are sitting in a hot house. If they don't do better than that, I will be finding another company because I cannot go like that for a long time especially on a summertime.
Other than that, American Home Shield is good. I have recommended and would recommend them. When we called, we had good people that came out. They were knowledgeable and they know what they were doing. The electricians, especially when I had that heat pump down at Bismarck, were very good, too. When they came out, they fixed it and didn't fool around. They did a very good job.

The blower in one of my air conditioning units wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and my phone was answered in a relatively quick, if not completely reasonable amount of time. I spoke to a person which I always appreciate, and told them it was not an urgent issue. But within 48 hours, I had contact from Aire Serv of Coastal Carolina and after the first contact, I had service on-site within 24 hours. The techs that came out were very good. They fixed it during the same visit as they had more than sufficient repair parts on board their truck. In fact, there was no ordering of parts and there's no scheduling of the second visit. I rate that as outstanding. In addition, the technicians were polite and proficient. Although I wish AHS' answering service could be a little quicker, I was impressed with their attention and responsiveness to their online service.

I have been with American Home Shield for many years. We used to have two homes and I have their service in both our homes. Though we sold our home north and are now living in our home in Florida, I've continued to keep it. We've had many claims with American Home Shield. A number of years ago, they replaced our air conditioner and ductwork. When my microwave broke, they replaced it too.
Last month, I came out to the kitchen and there was a flood on my floor. Turns out, my dishwasher wasn't working. That was fixed in two weeks cause they had to wait for the part. Also, when my pool had an issue, it was taken care of within days. The gentleman came the day after I submitted the service request. And he said that the pool was leaking and he would try and seal the hole. If I have any issues, he told me to call back and he'd be back to replace it. We had to wait 24 hours for whatever stuff he put on it to cure. And when I went to turn it on, it was leaking. So I called right away and he said that the part had to be ordered. When he came out a few days later, he replaced the part and it was good to go.
When my refrigerator stopped cooling, AHS responded very quickly. They sent somebody out who tried to see if it could be fixed, but the part was no longer available. I had to call them to find out what exactly was going on because normally, they would have called right away, but I have not heard anything. When I called, the woman that I spoke with checked and she said that the refrigerator would be replaced. I had a choice of what refrigerators I wanted and if I wanted to upgrade, I could do that as well. Although, I would have to pay extra. I chose to stay with the one that they suggested. American Home Shield has been very good. I've recommended them to a number of people.

But the dishwasher was older and they couldn't find any parts. So we were told we would get a new one. American Home Shield offered us one but we decided we wanted a different one. So we went and bought a different one and sent the receipt. Then they sent us the money that they offered, which was very close, and we got one we wanted. We were happy. Aside from this claim, the contractors they send are usually good. Once, we had someone who came out but my husband went behind and fixed what needed to be fixed. But on the whole, they are good and we recommend them.

When I had some dampness in one of the bathrooms downstairs, The Lindsay Company came out. But the technician said that it might be a leak in our attic from our air conditioning drain pan. The plumber should have taken care of whatever he needed to take care of. Instead, he said that it was an AC deal, not his. I paid the claim of $75 and now American Home Shield is asking for another $75 because they called an AC guy. I'm not paying that. I called and made one claim. If they say they need payment because of the AC guy then that's beyond my control. It's really silly. Plus if they're gonna send somebody else, they should at least call and let me know. I got nothing. On the other hand, I am getting the emails that I need to take care of my account.
Also, I had called for a week straight to ask a question and I was on hold for 15 to 30 minutes on each call. That was ridiculous. In the beginning, it was great. I made a phone call once or twice to ask questions then I had a previous claim. Those were fine. I never waited. This was my first bad experience. But still, I called five times in one week and I couldn't get anybody on the phone within the first few minutes. So I won't be renewing with American Home Shield.
In customer service, I couldn't get anybody on the phone. But I tried all kinds of numbers to get ahold of somebody. The system said to press three for new customers or renewals. When I pressed three, I got a lady on the phone in two seconds. So I had her but when I asked her whether they would cover deteriorating pipes in the wall, she said she doesn't know the answer. I asked her if she would know that answer if I was a new customer and she said no. I said that if they're trying to get a customer, that would probably be a question they would ask. I asked her again if she didn't know the answer and she said no.

So far, I made three claims with American Home Shield for my air conditioning and heating unit. I did the first two online and I did the third one over the phone. American Home Shield's online site was very easy to use. Submitting a claim over the phone was fairly easy as well. We haven’t had any issues with the contractors. The first time they were here, it was because the unit was freezing up and it just needed to get cleaned out which fell on us. We know our warranty only covered parts. The other two that followed were because of a same problem.
The third service call was a recall. We had an issue with our unit where the fan motor wasn’t working when the air conditioner would kick on. And they came out and replaced the thermostat and some other control board. But when we went to use our heat, we experienced the same issue where the heater would come on, but it wouldn’t blow through the fan motor, which prompted me to do a recall. That should have been tested when we called them out initially because it all had to do with the fan motor. Other than that, the heat’s working now.
My only issue is if you had to do a recall for the same problem, you’re not able to do that on the website. You have to call in. I called the outside contractor they used first, and then they directed me over to American Home Shield, gave me their number and said that we would have to contact them to set a appointment. The website makes you pay the $75 fee. But if it’s the same issue, then as far as the consumer is concerned, you shouldn’t have to pay for something you already paid for. So, if consumers could just put it down as a recall for the same issue, it would save them from having to call in. Still, so far, the experience I’ve had with American Home Shield has been positive. Their rates are fair as far as what we have to pay for a service call.

When I made my contract with American Home Shield, I told them that almost all my appliances are brand new, but I still wanted them covered because I wanted to keep going with them. One of the things that broke was a brand new LG refrigerator (less than a year old). American Home Shield sent somebody over who looked at it and said it’s under warranty, so it will be replaced, but people who can handle LG are needed and they don’t. They called American Home Shield and a second person was sent over. He said not to worry and they'll take care of it. He called American Home Shield and they called a third company that came over.
I told them that before they come to see, it’s LG and it’s under warranty. He said they do that kind of work, so they came and fixed it. I also had a garage door problem and that was a separate issue. I didn’t pay both of them and said I’ll pay after. That way I can make sure there’s no problem. I paid both of them, one online and the other when I called in, but I started getting e-mails saying I owed $100 for the basic call on the refrigerator. I called American Home Shield and they said that was a mistake. The $100 I paid on the first one carries for the other ones also because it’s just that. They said my record was clear and this was the fifth time. I talked to five people and kept their names and the dates I called, one of which was two days ago.
I received an e-mail issued on the 1st of November saying I still owed $100 and it was 30 days overdue. I’m getting tired of this because I have to call and I don’t even mind the call, but it’s almost 20 to 25 minutes each time per call to go through and that’s more pain than anything else. I shouldn’t have to make calls that many times to try to correct something, which they keep saying is corrected and there is no problem, but two weeks later, I get another e-mail saying I'm overdue. I called and the rep said sorry, that they looked into the records and it showed I owed nothing.
I was also told it’s not gonna go against my credit score. I have a 920 and I don’t wanna screw on that. I have my American Express bills showing $200 was taken out by American Home Shield. They said they see it was submitted to the accounting and it was all taken care of, but it might take them some time and that I should just ignore it. All in all, I am very happy with them as far as their repair and response to any problem, but I’m not happy with the billing. It seems that one hand doesn’t know what the other hand’s doing or for some reason, they can’t take care of it.

American Home Shield does a great job. The last claim we had with them was for a plumbing issue and it was good in general. When I submit my claims for service, I no longer like to do it over the phone because I always have to have a credit card with me and I’m never at the house to call through a landline phone. I’m a real estate agent, so I have direct contacts with people there that I’ve had relationships with for 10 plus years. So, sometimes, I text them to submit a claim or have my office do it online.
Although AHS seems to be doing their job the best they can, I’m not happy with their contractors. When the plumbers showed up, sometimes they couldn’t fix things and AHS had to send someone else out. Also, sometimes the plumbers didn’t show up, then AHS had to get on top of the contractors. They’re only as good as their contractors and that’s the only reason why I got frustrated with them. Other than that, I've had a home warranty with AHS for several years and I still use them quite a bit because they have the best customer service out of all the home warranty companies.

Then, the contractor came in and it took him no more than about 10 minutes to install it, make sure it was working properly, and check anything else that was wrong with it. My dryer stopped working in late August, so we put in a service request to have it fixed. A company quickly came to look at it (we have used this company through AHS multiple times and they have always been great) and said that they would have to order a new control board through AHS and would be in contact with us, but suggested we call AHS for any issues in the meantime. Being busy, about a month went by without hearing anything about the part or when our dryer would be fixed. I called AHS and spent close to two hours on hold. They said the part was on back order and they were "so surprised" that no one had updated me on the situation and gave me a date that the part would be in. The date they gave me came and went and I still had a broken dryer. I called them again and spent about an hour on hold this time. Again, they were "so surprised" I hadn't been updated, but the part was still on back order and would be in the next week.
Finally, TWO MONTHS (!) after the initial service request, the part arrives. The technician is busy and isn't able to come until a week later to fix the dryer (I don't hold that against them). They come on Wednesday, the dryer is fixed, I do two loads of laundry, life moves on. The following Sunday (4 days later), I need to do laundry again. I transfer clothes to the dryer, push the start button, and nothing happens. I call AHS and they basically don't care and told me I should get a temporary dryer (that's not a thing!) until they can figure out how to honor their warranty. I could have bought a new dryer with the amount I've spent on the BS home warranty. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on American Home Shield.

We tried to get our garbage disposal switched out and got a horrible company. They did not want to submit the claim through the proper channels because they wanted to keep the money for themselves. We refused them and we ended up paying twice and having to call somebody else besides AHS to come in and replace our garbage disposal. With that as our first experience with American Home Shield, I had second thoughts and asked my husband if we made the right decision by getting this insurance. Lo and behold, shortly after, we had an issue with the air conditioning and our experience was completely opposite in a very positive way. The air conditioner company that came out was absolutely wonderful and very professional.
They took care of us in the most expedient way. It didn't take the tech very long to come out and we told him what we were told when we had somebody else come to diagnose it. The circuit board was burned out and it had to be replaced. He looked at it and said the part needed to be ordered. After it was ordered, he came back and replaced it. Everything has been perfect and the tech was very respectful. We don’t wear shoes in our house and he wore booties and cleaned up. I was very happy with him unlike with the other claim. The issue was taken care of and we’re happy we have the insurance.
Hello, Maria. We do apologize to hear that you had issues with that first work order but thank you for letting us know that the A/C was taken care of so quickly and efficiently!

The ice maker had stopped working and I called AHS right away. AHS sent RC Appliance for my refrigerator and they responded quickly. They didn’t have the part on hand, but had it three days later. They came back in, popped it in, and everything was working fine. Getting our refrigerator back online brought our daily lives back together. We had remodeled the house about 18 months ago and put in new all new appliances, with the exception of the refrigerator and water heater so I appreciate AHS being there. I did not have to worry about any big repairs coming in. That to me is comforting.

I've had some good luck and some bad luck with American Home Shield. Lots of times, I can call a repair company and fix the issue cheaper than what American Home Shield would. What gets me on the whole thing is that, if it's a high-end appliance, they won't pay for it. They're just gonna pay for an entry-level. That's not a very good business sense of their part because if I'm trying to insure a nice appliance, whether it's Dacor, Sub-Zero, or something like that, and if it goes out, then they should pay for a replacement of that instead of a low-end GE that you get at Walmart. I don't know why that is because they know upfront what you have when you list your appliances. Also, that's not right because you've already spent the money on the thing, so you're paying for insurance on it and it shouldn't matter. Other than, I hadn't had a whole lot of issues with them.
The last claim I submitted to them was for our water well pump that had gone out, along with the pump and the motor, and they have it replaced. I did it through their website and then made a call just to double-check that they got it. I do a backup because sometimes it doesn't get passed on if I do a verbal, and sometimes it doesn't get passed on if I do online. So, I just do both to make sure they got it. Our water well was kinda our only water supply, so they got on it pretty quickly. The techs who came out were very good. They've been in business for a long time. They knew what they were doing and they basically got right to it and fixed it.

I submitted a claim online when my AC was not cooling and somebody was scheduled but it took four days. When I had 87 degrees in my house, that was not pleasant. I couldn't sleep. It was too hot for all of us, including my poor pets. Then on the day that the contractor was supposed to arrive, they called in sick. We had to reschedule and that's when Airflow came in. They came out within two days. But it took quite a long time and I wasn't really happy about all that.
I like Airflow though. As a licensed Realtor who sells American Home Shield everyday with their contract, I've actually referred Airflow to my customers. The technician was very open and honest. They had to take a look and see what the problem was because I didn't know. They reviewed what needed to be done and why and then how to take care of my AC. They told me that it needed a new condenser coil. So it had to be ordered and they were able to come back within a couple of days and install that. So far, the warranty has been awesome. I didn't even expect I'd need it but I did.

They identified the part needed then ordered it and came back about a week and a half later to put it in. They texted me when they were on the way here, and just did a great job. Now I have ice again. They were in and out fast and polite while they were here.

I had a claim with the air conditioner and there was a problem trying to get appointments set up with the contractor because the answering service didn’t have any kind of voicemail. Every time I'd call, it would just ring and no one ever answered the phone, and it was hard to get in touch. The contractor would call me when I tell them to call me at work between this time. However, they would call me at home, when I told them I would not be there. It was a back and forth thing before I even got an appointment. When the contractor came out, they did something, but they didn’t tell me that it wasn’t complete. I got a phone call a month later saying they had to come back and hook up something for the heat, and they told us not to turn the heat on. It was air conditioner season, but we had some cold spells, and I didn’t know that.
The recent claim I had was about the fire alarm beeping and making noise. I called American Home Shield and the customer service would listen to what I said and they would try to solve the issue. They would contact the people, and whatever they say to those contractors, they would call me right back to set up an appointment. The contractor for the fire alarm sent an email, but then I didn't hear anything so I had to contact American Home Shield, and they contacted the people, and then they called me back to get set an appointment. The technician that came out has been nice, considerate, and the quality of work they did was good so far.
Before, when I used to have to call for American Home, we get good contractors. They set up appointments and come right. But lately these contractors don’t answer the phone and I gotta keep calling in order to get an appointment. This is what I’m having now. You might be lucky if you get a good one. But they come when they say would.

I would recommend American Home Shield. They do what they say they are gonna do, unlike some of the other places that I've had. When water began pouring out of the dryer and the washing machine areas, I got the water shut off and I called AHS. The reps were very nice and they said they would get somebody lined up then call me back which they did. They told me that a guy was coming. The guy called me the next day and confirmed that he was coming. He was very professional, polite and was on time. He fixed what he said he was gonna fix. He walked me through everything he was doing and explained why he was doing it. When he was done, he made sure it was all cleaned up and fixed up. He took care of the problem and he even took a looked through another pipe area that was not related.

There was a loud noise coming from my air conditioner that was vibrating the whole house and it was crazy. I made a claim online with AHS and their website was great to navigate through. They then had somebody call me immediately. We set up an appointment, then the technician came out and fixed it. A part of the installation got stuck in one of the motors and he removed that and made sure everything else was working. He was very professional and he was here for half an hour. After the repair, the AC has been working well.
I'm really happy with AHS. My last claim was a pretty easy fix but the warranty is something that everybody should have, especially if they have an older home like mine. They should all have some kind of a home warranty in case things like that happened. I would also recommend for everybody to go with AHS. I trust them and they solved my issue quickly.

The next morning, I got an email saying somebody will get ahold of me within 24 hours. I got that pretty quickly and then, the Budget AC Heating & Plumbing folks contacted me the next morning and came up later that day. The claim process at American Home Shield was reasonably fair, and it wasn't difficult at all. I had two work orders for two different buildings. One was a house and one was a flat, and they were both plumbing issues. After submitting my claim over the phone, the contractors who came out were good. Although my experience has been positive, you have to be patient as far as the time. If they give a window, they may not always make it within that window. But so far, I have no problems with my plumbing since the repair. If I had to do it all over again and choose another vendor, it would definitely be American Home Shield.

The ceiling lights in both of my rooms were hanging down and weren't working properly, and Sean Electrical Mechanical came to fix it. Every time I have electrical problems, I have to call American Home Shield, then I ask for them. They are good, so I prefer them. They came to my house four or five times. The other electricians American Home Shield was sending out before really didn't seem to know what they were doing. For instance, my back porch light wasn't working and the guy said he had to cut a hole in the wall and extend the search. I said no and that I wanted another company to check it out.
As a matter of fact, I had two electricians come before Sean Electrical Mechanical. One electrician said he had to cut the wall and another electrician said something that was crazy, so I got a second opinion. And when Sean came, they did their job and they didn't have to cut any walls. They also came out another time at my house and did a good job that's why I'm requesting them.

My AC quit working and American Home Shield sent out Temple to fix it. The men came and took care of the problem. Then about three weeks ago, we realized that the commode in one of the bathrooms was cracked. I called American Home Shield and they sent a contractor. He looked at it and he claimed that we broke the commode ourselves when I actually thought it had been made when it was molded. It just took a number of years where it was leaking under the floor, as we had earthquakes around. Maybe the shaking of an earthquake opened it a little bit to where it started to leak.
AHS would not cover it. I had to go and hire an outside plumber to repair it, which I’m not happy about. I’ve been with them since in the 90s and I’m at the point right now to leave them just because of the commode deal. What they did was not right. Not only that, on my bank statement, I got charged $75 twice and I haven’t called them yet today because I’ve just been busy. At this point, I wouldn’t recommend them to anybody.

My hot water heater needed to be fixed and it took me almost a week to get someone out there because the person that American Home Shield contacted wasn’t available. AHS did not communicate with me and I had to keep calling back to check the status of the work order. The contractor said that they told AHS that they were not able to be there until two days. AHS never called me, so I called back and spoke to someone who said that they will get me someone else. Then, when they found someone else, they didn’t let the other company know and the other person was headed to my house. I had to let them know that it was already completed. We’ve used American Home Shield on a few occasions, and so far, we’ve been pleased with the results. We recently had a claim with them when we had what seemed like an explosion in our oven, and it turned out to be not an explosion. Something was warping a little bit under the heat and it would warp to the point where it would snap, making a loud noise. It sounded more serious but it wasn’t. The repairman just needed to replace that piece of sheet metal. The contractor was very good and helpful. It was the same guy that we had the very first time we used AHS. His demeanor and professionalism were excellent and the problems that we’ve had AHS out for repair have not reoccurred.
The only time we had an issue with any of the technicians was when we have filed a claim for the refrigerator. It took them a long time to complete it because he had to come out three times. The first time he came, he misdiagnosed the issue and did not fix the problem. We had to call him back, which wasn’t a big deal ‘cause it was $75 per incident and everything else is covered by the AHS.
However, the $75 fee is, originally said to be per service call. That was not entirely clear in the way the whole thing was presented. A couple of examples might help in the way they present that particular part of the deal. Initially, we thought that if we made a claim, and then the contractors came out to do something and then the problem reoccurred, we had to pay another $75 fee, which turns out it was not the case. But other than that, we've had a positive experience with American Home Shield.

AHS is a good investment and money well spent. When I submitted a claim for my washer, I received an email correspondence within a couple of hours from the contractor. They let me know when the techs were gonna come out and we got that scheduled. Then they came in and repaired the part that had a problem. After that, the washer was up and running with no issues at all. They were very clean about what they did and very professional. Then, the thermostat was bad on the refrigerator and AHS was super-fast in responding to my claim. I submitted the claim the night before and the guy was at the door first thing in the morning. He came in, looked at it, shut it down for the day, and let it all defrost. The next day, he came in with a thermostat which took him about five minutes to put in. He ensured the product was good and working.
AHS's reps were very professional, courteous, and expedient with what they were doing. All our correspondence was via e-mail but they called me one time on the first claim to get the serial number of my washer. I got it to their rep and she was able to complete the claim and push it forward. The contractors have been very pleasant, punctual, and courteous. They have been very informative as to what they were doing and what they were gonna do. If they made any mess, they cleaned it up. They were very conscious that it wasn’t their house. It was someone else’s and they were gonna take care of it.
I tell others to go for AHS. If I didn't know what was wrong with the refrigerator, I would have gone out to purchase one and that would have been $1,000. The same thing with the washer. The kind I have would have been anywhere from $1,200 to $1,500. Knowing that American Home Shield is there to back me up, I don’t have those worries and I don’t need to throw money away that I don’t need to. You never know when you’re gonna need the warranty but it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

They wanted to replace it with a full-sized one which wouldn’t fit into our closet. Trying to call their appliance replacement department is a nightmare. Literally, my average wait time was over an hour. I called them on four separate occasions and it happened each time. He also told us that we had to get some other things done to the dryer, like our vents needed to be cleaned. He was very knowledgeable, and he also gave us a recommendation, which was better because I felt like I got two for one.
It was a very easy process. It was a little time-consuming since it got stretched for a couple of weeks just because they didn’t have the part. But it is what it is. I then paid my deductible of $100. My dryer is fine now and I was very happy and satisfied. Also, AHS didn’t charge my account until after the process was completed. I’ve recommended AHS to others before I had a claim out. What I got was for my appliances and major things like air conditioning. So, I went through a bunch of stuff where they were gonna replace it. I would talk to the company where the technicians would say they were gonna recommend that and then I would call the company and they would say they were not gonna do that.
I called them about three times after the technician said they were gonna recommend that it be replaced. It was just an on-going saga. Also, Accord Appliance doesn't fix things. They come out with parts that don't work. They make an appointment to come out and do stuff. Then, they would say they couldn't do anything because they have to call the east coast which the other technicians did not have to do and they would say it's already too late to call.
I got to somebody who said they were not gonna replace it for the ice maker. I told AHS to get somebody out here that will replace my ice maker and they did. Also, I told them to not ever send Accord Appliance out to my house again. Accord was terrible. They sent out a whole bunch of different guys and I would start over every time. They just spin their wheels. I had to through a bunch of rigmarole because AHS said it's their company and that's who they send out. He had been here before so he was really nice. After the repair, the air conditioner has been excellent and I'm happy.
However, being with AHS is not like calling a repairman and things are done right away. When you submit a claim, it would be another day before you get things done. AHS would send out a repairman and they have your parts on their truck. It has to be submitted for approval which is like one of those things where if it's something that's really necessary, it should be up to the technician's discretion and it should be approved. I also had one claim that AHS had closed, but it has never been fixed. It was regarding my toilet. But because I have a sick daughter, I haven't pursued that. Still, they were supposed to send somebody with a toilet or send me money for it.

The only issue I have with American Home Shield is getting through the initial claim because it's difficult to reach them. You’re on hold on the phone for about 15 minutes, so I usually put my phone on speakerphone and do chores while waiting to get through. However, once I get through, everything works fine.

We had a plumbing issue under the sink and we submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The contractor was very nice. The only problem with dealing with a warranty company was that they were not as prompt as when you deal directly with a contractor, but they were always very nice and cordial. The plumbing issue took two visits and it has been fine since the repair.

The air conditioner wasn’t keeping up in the summer so I wanted someone just to check it out while it was still running. And then I thought our furnace was old and I also wanted them to look at that when they came out. I heard that if you try to call in to American Home Shield, you can never get in so I filed the claim online. Their response time two days, which wasn’t bad. The service from the contractor was below average though.
I don’t know how much he looked at the air conditioner or the furnace, but he came back and said I that needed to change the furnace filter more. I said that I change it every month and I think they do a good job. The repair was basically changing the furnace filter more. I felt that it wasn’t a thorough diagnostic evaluation and I don’t really feel comfortable. I’ve heard that if something is broken, American Home Shield will fix it and they were highly recommended by my boss at work. However, their contractors should check out the furnaces a little bit more and then understand that they’re doing their own analysis to fix the problem.

Our pool equipment was having a couple of different problems. We submitted a claim over the internet with AHS and their website was user-friendly, but it was not very informative. The categories are too broad and their website doesn't show that a particular item is not covered. One time, I filed a claim and paid $125 but when the technician came out, he said that it was not covered. Of course if I went through the policy, I would have confirmed that. But they should have that upfront on their website and I should be able to see it while I'm submitting a claim online. For example, under plumbing, it should say the things that are covered and the exclusions. Whatever is in the contract, that should be on the screen before I hit submit.
For my pool claim, Aqua Pool came out and they did the work quickly. Originally, the repair was not covered but they had it done the last time around. It was easier to schedule with them and they came out within 72 hours. So it took a couple of days to get the pool equipment fixed and so far, everything’s working just fine. I’d recommend getting AHS.

I live in Honolulu, Hawaii where the average temperature is mid to high 80s. Unfortunately, my central AC started raining down on my floor. The local service provider came out in a timely manner to inspect my AC. It turns out that a part was cracked and needed to be replaced. 10 days later, and no one contacting me, the local AC repair company could not locate the part here on island. They asked AHS to supply the part. Over a week later a part was ordered, supposedly. The part was supposed to arrive in Honolulu yesterday after waiting 10 days for it. Lo and behold it did not arrive. I had spoked to an authorization supervisor, Ms. **, previously. She would or could not provide me with a tracking number at that time. She advised me that the AC repair company received that number, which they did not. I was told that I would receive my service charge back for the inconvenience and that was now almost 2 weeks ago, no refund yet.
I have called Ms. ** and left a voicemail a week ago and no response. I am completely disgusted with the lack of "customer service" I have received. Not once has someone from this company reached out to me unless I instigated it. I have spent countless hours waiting on the phone just to speak to someone who can't or won't help me. I will not recommend this company based on the way I have been treated. It's been a month now with no AC and living in a hot climate it can be unbearable. My condo gets up to 89 degrees inside. And no one seems to care at AHS.

We had three different refrigerators having problems. One of them was leaking into the fruit bins at the bottom. They were filling up with water every few days. Then, another refrigerator had the ice and water on the front of the fridge, and that fridge has not been working for a while. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, I did it over the phone partly because we had multiple appliances and I was hoping to get it under one claim, which we did. Their reps were helpful. They let us know everything was covered and they connected us with a serviceman.
The serviceman came to diagnose the fridge that was leaking water in the bottom. He told me that there's a clog somewhere in the system and we needed to defrost it for 24 hours. When he came back, he double checked it and blew air to it so that the clog would be removed. It started working better since even though it still has some dust underneath that they needed to vacuum out to get it working properly. But it doesn't leak anymore. Then on the other fridge, the on and off switch was broken. The serviceman came back and helped put in a new switch but it still wasn’t working. So he had to get another part for the water to come correctly. In closing, American Home Shield has always been a good deal for us. We even use them at another house. While the service charge is a little higher than it used to be, it is still fine.

With such a reputable company as AHS maybe they want to think about getting a better contractor as far as the appliances go. We asked for a different contractor but nobody ever came.
Other than that we do our claims online and I like it. Their website is user-friendly. I’m pretty happy with the service. It’s invaluable. It’s a gift from God. They’re a good company. What I also like about AHS is I don’t have to pay them right then. I can pay it after the repair is completed, and I really like that. AHS understands the struggle. We had about four calls within the last two months regarding the AC though. The first time, they told us it really was out and that was replaced but then within a couple of days, it was not working. So, they said that the AC motor had to be changed. We did that and it was taken care of. Our freezer and fridge quit cooling and it took three guys to come. It gets over 100 degrees here in Bakersfield and getting an air conditioner fixed is a nightmare. We can’t make it a month without air. The first guy came and the unit initially needed a part, so he came back with the part and as he was putting the part in, there was something else broken and he said he couldn’t fix that. The second man came and we explained to him that the other guy said it was a Freon issue and the second man said the part will be put back on. We told him that’d already been put on and off, but he put it on, took it back off and left. The third guy came and he fixed it.
I’ve been with home warranties since they started and I’ve had 50 visits over the years including rentals. Some of these guys show up just to collect that initial fee and that's what the second guy struck me as. He wasn’t interested in doing the repair or he came out on a problem that he shouldn’t be out on, but the first and third guys were very professional and great. We’ve had the first guy before and he was excellent. I was really disgruntled about paying for my own air, but I don't think I’d be able to get the unit fixed. American Home Shield sent Greenway Home Services for an AC issue and they stopped 5 times. They didn't figure out the problem until I found out what it was. I told them about it so they changed the duct under the house. After the technician changed it, I smelled something was not right the next day, so I called Greenway back again. The technician went under the house and found that the duct was loose. He didn't fix it the right way. He just put duct tape around it and he left. I told him he had to put duct seal and zip tight then put the duct tape. He told me he knew what he was doing. After he left, the duct became loose again. I called Greenway, they stopped by, and the technician put duct tape again. He said nothing was gonna happen to it.
The thing was the duct had to be relaxed. The duct under the house was so stretched. When it’s stretched, it’s gonna get off again. When I asked why the technician didn't put on duct seal and zip tight, the technician said that was gonna cost me more money. But he said not to worry and that it was gonna work right. The technician told me he has 30 years of experience. I told him that if he did the work the right way in the beginning, I didn't have to call 5 times for the same reason. His face turned so ugly because he didn't like what I said.
My brother and I both have American Home Shield. I got two other friends who have them too. I gave them the number to call AHS and to get the service from them. I’ve been with American Home Shield since I buy the house in 2003. For my AC claim, I used to call the Greenway then they transferred me to AHS. They answered right away. But the last time I called for the same issue, I stayed on the line for 45 minutes. I told AHS exactly what happened. I even recalled everything when the Greenway guys stopped by in my house. I was recording all the conversation. Other than that, AHS has been good.
I only had issues with Greenway. They keep pushing me and the guy said that I needed to change the AC unit. But there was nothing wrong with it. He kept calling for this and that. I told him I didn't wanna change the unit. Age is only a number. I take care of the AC every year and clean it to keep it running perfectly. If something happens in the future, I don’t want American Home Shield to send me Greenway Home Services again. I don’t wanna deal with them even if they wanna do something for me for free.

My air conditioner has a hole in the u-coil and is still not resolved. North Carolina says that the outside unit has to match and the u-coil has to match something about pressure. They're not gonna replace the outside unit, although they're all the same age of about 18 years old. I have to replace that and have everything resolved before it gets hot again. American Home Shield gave me a good price of $1,800. They sent their vendor American Air Conditioner and the owner's wife said it's $2,800. That created a gap and when I talked to American Home Shield several weeks later, they still said it was $1,800. When I finally get the $1,800 and we get it all installed, I'm wondering if they're gonna try to hijack me for another $1,000.

I always call in if I have to do a claim and it’s a hit and miss with the reps from American Home Shield. They were nice people but half the time, they gave wrong information. So, it was frustrating. Also, you can never speak to a supervisor so, they’ve got lots of customer service issues on over the phone experience. They also have very bad vendors that come out, their customer service is so-so and they have a horrible wait time but they have a very cheap premium.
When one of the motors of the AC was not turning on, AHS sent a contractor who was an older gentleman. He was the owner of the company. He diagnosed the problem and when he ordered the part, we needed to wait for it to arrive which took a while. That was fine but the person who came to install it was his nephew who didn’t seem to know how to get it in. It took him an hour and he kept on shutting it because it rides on a track and he couldn’t find the track. So, he kept on by brute force and pushed it in. It tore holes on the insulation and I didn’t feel very comfortable with the process.
I called the owner who got a little annoyed because he wanted his nephew to take care of it. I tried to give his nephew the benefit of the doubt and so, he got it in. I asked him what he was gonna do about the hole and he said it was not that big. I told him that the insulation was there for a reason, so it should be patched. He said he would duct tape it. I called his uncle again and his uncle ended up having his nephew leave. Then I called American Home Shield and tried to get another vendor to come out, and they said there was not any possible way to do that since it has been damaged. The original vendor had to fix it. Eventually, I called the vendor back and the owner came out again and not his nephew, so that was good. He installed it, fixed the holes and assured me that everything was fine. So, I felt a little more comfortable and then he left.
I keep AHS for my AC. In case something goes wrong, I don’t wanna pay for it out-of-pocket. Most of the vendors that they send out are very bad, which is very frustrating because then you have to deal with it. When my washing machine broke down, they could not fix it and they kept on sending out new technicians but they could never diagnose it. I finally got a Sears tech and he knew what he was doing and he fixed it, but they just send out kind of subpar people that are so-so on their level of training, professionalism or thoroughness. So, you get stuck with those not so hot repair people. However, AHS is zealous about keeping you happy. They refunded my copay so, I appreciate that about them.

A gentleman came and found that the Freon level was good, but there were a couple of other issues with some of the motors or the mechanism. He repaired it and within the next day, the house was cool again. Now that it turns cold outside, we use heat more than the AC, but the air conditioner is working okay.
However, I still don't have a clear understanding of exactly what was done. I never got any statement or a summary of what was done from American Home Shield. I was also hoping that the $100 that I paid on the past claim would cover my service fee for this claim. But they said that because more than 60 days had passed, it counts as a new claim even though it was for the same component. Still, the gentleman who came was good and he knew what was going on. He moved very efficiently and quickly but he was courteous. He also let me know when he was done.

My air conditioner was having some issues that came to light when I had my regular inspection done and the techs who came put a hard start on it. American Home Shield came out and checked it out and tried to fix it but there was nothing they could do. The tech was professional and informative but there really wasn't much that he could tell me. He checked everything and said that the unit was clean which was what I paid the local company to do for me on a regular basis so it was like I spent the $75 fee to reaffirm that the other company did a good job.
Also, with the sale of my home in Pensacola, I found out that I had purchased a maintenance policy with AHS but I didn't know about it until I got the maintenance done. I didn't know that it covered things like gas and rekeying the locks which is one of the first things that I wanna do when I take possession of a new place. But I didn't get the information quickly enough and that's the only issue I have with them.

I filed my claim online and a gentleman came out and replaced the gasket. He also told me what was wrong with the fridge. Other people should get AHS' warranty.

I used to submit claims to American Home Shield by phone then I went to do it online. The process was easy and the contractor they've sent out was excellent. Both times, I’ve had the same tech come out. The recent claim was for the heater. It was just blowing cold. The tech who came out was the same person who did my AC when I first moved in. He and his assistant were fabulous. They were in and out and had the problems solved in minutes. Since the repair, the heater is performing perfectly. I've had a very good experience with American Home Shield.

I submitted my claims with American Home Shield on the phone at first then I started doing it online. I find their online site is fairly easy to use. They replaced the oven in my house and I almost just bought it myself because it was such a pain in the backside to get through to them. I would be on hold for 40 minutes at a time, and I was very unhappy about that. We were having problems with the oven and when the serviceman got there, he said that the tag with the model number was so old that it was half gone. He had no way of knowing what to order for it. He decided it needed to be replaced. The lady I talked to that had something to do with appliance purchasing was really nice. She called me back when she said she would so I found that refreshing.
Also, other than the wait time, I’m a little at odds with who AHS sends out and the caliber of these people. I’ve had one appliance guy and I ended up telling him I didn’t want him back. I also told American Home Shield that I didn’t want him back out there, but they ended up sending him out when the oven had to be put in. They delivered the oven and installed it. My son said the two guys that were there had no clue on what to do to put that in, and that he had to help them. I wasn't there when it happened, but I find that very unprofessional if somebody who lives there has to help the guy that was supposed to be installing for us. That was their job.
Moreover, Drain Masters had to come out there the second time for the kitchen sink. And when they put the auger down in our drain, most of them have gotten a deal with screws on the end of it that clears the pipe out. They don’t use anything on theirs and I asked why they don’t have a tether on that auger. He said that it was a liability issue. But if they're doing the job half right, what’s the point of doing it? Still, he was nice and I enjoyed talking to him.
I’ve rented the house to my son and his wife, and it’s the second time they can’t use the sink or the dishwasher. It’s getting a little old and it’s almost to the point to where I wonder if I need to go look at how much these augers cost with the ends on it and do it myself. But as far as I know, they did not charge me for the second visit and they shouldn’t have because that was a recall. This could be ongoing because they don’t have anything on the end of that cable to actually cut the problem out.
I wish American Home Shield used better quality and knowledgeable people. The people that came out were just patching stuff up. I got that impression that they were not really trying to fix it right. I wish I have known about their appliance purchase program before we got in this as far as what we did because I bought a dishwasher and a refrigerator locally and put them in that house. When I saw how much they got that oven for and what it would’ve cost me at Lowe’s for it, I wish I’d have bought it through AHS. That would’ve saved me the money for the whole thing, where I would’ve recouped what I spent for the warranty for the year right there just on the refrigerator alone.
American Home Shield's home warranty has its good and not so good things. But it beats nothing. This is the first home warranty people that I’ve ever had to deal with, and the first warranty that we’ve ever had on our home so I’m not dissatisfied with it. I’m glad we’ve gotten it. It’s worth having and I would recommend it, but I wish they do things a little differently on who they sent out.

The heat in my furnace went out because of a part that was bad. I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield and the actual menu choices for the problem I had was a little confusing. I picked one at random that I thought could've fit, but I was still able to get pointed in the right direction. I got there at the end of the day but they probably could put it more in layman's terms. I'm a HVAC guy, but I didn't know if it was the furnace or the heater. Luckily, I picked the right one. A contractor came, replaced the part, and was also able to do the seasonal service on it. So, it was very nice. Good quality of work was done and the contractor was perfect and was anything I would expect from any professional company. I've had a good experience with American Home Shield so far.

There was an issue with my water heater, and the first people that came out said that it was not working because of the fact that it was connected to a solar-powered water heater, which was never on. So, I had to get another person to come out and American Home Shield was trying to charge me $75 for another person to come out because it was a different diagnosis, when they said I wasn't gonna get charged if it wasn't a different diagnosis. They were saying that I wasn't covered, but when the second people came out, they said I was.
Most recently, I noticed that there was a big puddle of water underneath my washing machine during the middle of one of my laundry sessions. It was leaking everywhere and it wasn't fun. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and I was very pleased with the response time. We had to wait for the company to get the products so that they could replace everything that was messed up. The contractor was very straightforward and the very first time he came in, he was blunt. He said what he was gonna do, opened up the washing machine and indicated what was wrong with it. He was in and out in about 25 minutes which was very fast. Nothing seems to be messing up with the machine since the repair and it runs quieter now, so it is awesome.

I had a couple of issues at about the same timeframe and all three things were taken care of in a timely and very professional manner. I usually call the 1-800 service number when I have claims and that tends to work out best. One of the issues was on my pool then the other one was on a trash compactor. We had an issue with our dryer as well and American Home Shield pretty much got companies that were able to get out to us in a timely manner. We had one issue with the pool company but American Home Shield sent someone else out and they were beyond measure. So we didn't have any problems with them at all the second time around.
I also understand that some things don't always happen the way that they should. But if the company is willing to assess it and have someone else come out and make sure that everything is deemed to be corrected in a timely manner, a lot of people would look at that as a huge benefit. So American Home Shield did perfectly there. Since they took care of the issue with the pool, our experience has been more than exceptional. From here on out, I don’t see any issues and I will continue doing services with Home Shield.

I had routine maintenance on my furnace and AccuTemp, the company that I used, told me I had a crack in the heat exchanger. I called American Home Shield, which what I usually do when I submit claims, and their reps were very pleasant. American Home Shield sent a company out, but the contractor told me he couldn't find it.
If there's a crack in your heat exchanger, you have to worry about carbon monoxide poisoning. So, I called American Home Shield back and asked them to send another contractor. The lady said that she could do that, but it would be another $100 service fee. I told her that if they find the crack, then I won't pay that fee, and she agreed. She then sent the second company out.
AccuTemp also sent somebody out and they were delayed. When their tech came, he did a film and showed me the crack. I called American Home Shield again because if it has already passed 30 days, I had to pay another $100 to have another company come out. They sent another company and I showed the contractor the video. He then went up there and said my furnace needed to be replaced.
I again called American Home Shield and asked them what the buyout was because I wanted a better furnace in there than what I was gonna get. The rep told me it was $600. I had the company that comes out twice a year put a new furnace in and paid $3,000 for it. I've sent the paperwork to American Home Shield 10 days ago to get the $600 reimbursed, but the rep told me that after they got the paperwork, it would take anywhere from 10 to 14 business days to get the reimbursement.
So far, my dealings with American Home Shield have been professional. Of course, they are watching their bottom line, too, which I understand. But if I had not persisted, I wouldn't have had another company come out. I would've just taken their word for it, but I wasn't willing to do that. I didn't trust the first and second guy who came out, and I was just shocked that I wouldn't get more than $600 reimbursement. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield. They're better than the other company I've had in the past.
Hi, Anne. I am glad that you did insist on another company coming out. A cracked heat exchanger can be harmful over time if it is not replaced. The buyout cost was based on our cost and is always below a retail cost. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience.

My tenants said one day that the air conditioning just stopped working, and I called that in. It's actually easier to submit the claim to American Home Shield over the internet but I had poor data on my phone at that time. I spoke with three different contractors. The first one was alright and it was easy to schedule and coordinate with my tenants. The contractor came over but they were not able to fix the AC. I think we were misdiagnosed when that happened. We were then referred to some other contractor but when I spoke with the guy, he said they didn’t deal with this kind of service. So, we were forwarded to a third one and they actually asked specific questions regarding the issue. They also thought that we were misdiagnosed and so they sent someone out here. And now, the AC is all fixed and everything is fine.

I have a GE refrigerator and its compressor went out. I called to file a claim to AHS and the person whom I spoke to was excellent. However, I had a lot of problems with the technicians who came out thereafter. The first guy who came was talking about how expected tips as soon as he walked in. I asked if he didn't get paid for doing the work and he explained that he took a pay cut. He said he was only getting $80 for the job but then he should get $150. He also said that the problem was the compressor and that it would be two or three weeks before he got the part. He took off thereafter and I called AHS to say that I didn't want that guy back in my house. That technician then cancelled everything.
So, I had to call AHS again to get someone else to come out and actually do the work. It took a couple of weeks to get the part and the guy who came out the second time around was great. I refer AHS to everybody I know. We live in a 55-plus mobile home park and almost everybody there has American Home Shield. Everybody talks well about this company.

I've had good service from American Home Shield but there have been times when I've been disappointed. I don't believe they're staffed sufficiently enough to take phone calls. I have complained about it to my account representative numerous times. It is much easier and much more efficient to deal with things electronically, which is what everybody wants you to do now anyway. But you get horrible service when you try to call them with a claim.
I had an electrical claim for the outside receptacle with American Home Shield most recently. I submitted it online which was extremely easy as opposed to doing it on the phone which I had given up on doing. Then, they got in touch with me and got somebody out very fast. The contractor was a local electrician. He returned my call within three or four hours. I told him I was on a limited time frame and he fit me in that day. He was very professional in his time here with his partner. They fixed two outside electrical receptacles for me which have been working fine since.
Hello Vernon. Thank you for the feedback. Although I regret to hear that you are not receiving the service that you should when you call into the center, I am glad to know that your service requests are being resolved.

We recently had a claim with AHS regarding our Jandy control system. The motherboard was totally non-functioning or defective. They sent a technician here and he had never seen anything like it. It’s a very common system here in Florida but he seemed to be very puzzled and stumped by the whole thing. He was on the phone talking to his supervisor but they finally figured out something. They put a new control motherboard in it and then he came back. It took him at least three trips.
It was a $1,000 electronic motherboard and he put it in and immediately blew it out and ruined it. He said it was because he's not an electrician but he should have known something if he did not do or cross-wired or something, or failed to turn off something. As soon as he turned the power on, it just smacked it again. So they replaced it with another motherboard. They were just not very competent.
The technician did get it up and working but I still had to call another pool company to come and sort the whole system out. The settings on it were not what they should have been and I finally called my own local pool company. I had them go through it and he said, “This was set wrong and that was set wrong. This valve was set correctly.”
American Home Shield seems to be an excellent company. They’re very responsive. I communicate online and they get back immediately. They pay claims and when they had refused a claim, it wasn't a big thing. I’m very pleased with their customer service. However, I'm not 100% satisfied with some of the contractors. Some of them are third-rate. It’s almost like they’ve taken the cheapest contractors. Whoever gives them the cheapest price shows up. Some of them gets the job done but some of them bumble around like they don’t know what they’re doing. But as far as AHS I would recommend them to anybody. They just need to upgrade the quality of those technical service people.

I had electrical and air conditioning issues, and to my surprise, both were handled very well by American Home Shield. A couple of years back, I had them and I was treated like dirt. This particular time was very good. My air conditioning went out and I couldn’t figure it out so, I called American Home Shield. The contractor came and said that I had a short in my outlet. I told them I have never heard of such a thing because it wasn’t at the fuse box and it wasn’t one with the circuit breakers. He said my air conditioning unit was plugged into it and the outlet itself went bad.
I asked him how it happened and I wanted him to show me the outlet, and he goes, “Blah, blah, blah.” I was kinda scratching my head because based on the troubleshooting issue, I could have known a little bit more about my house. I’m a handyman myself and I wanted to know a little bit about what happened and they just fixed the outlet rather than explaining a little bit. The normal person just wants it fixed but I wanted to know the reason why.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for eight years and I had an issue with an air conditioning at another property that I was very dissatisfied with but AHS came through. I hope that it continues to be that way because that is their best advertisement. I will be telling people that they all need to go to American Home Shield. I told my girlfriend and she has AHS in the other side of town. I don’t want them to come out immediately. Within a day is fine. I had another claim before this one which was on an air conditioning repair and two guys came out to fix it. He took the time to explain to me what the problem was and what he was doing to rectify it and why. He was very thorough and very patient. He also walked me through how to prevent it in the future. He didn’t have what he needed on the truck but he got it very timely. He was also very personable and professional. He made me a priority while he was here and respected my home. He took his shoes off, put on some little slipper things that they carried and cleaned up after himself.
However, I did have an issue with AHS and I just got over it. I knew I was leaving the country for a time period and the bill would come due while I was gone, so I called to see what my renewal fee would be, and I was given a number. I paid that amount in advance before I left and before it was due. And then I get all these past due notices for an amount.
When I called to inquire why they wanted an additional $86, nobody could tell me why so I just paid it. But generally, I love AHS. I recommend it to everybody. There's a lot of negative PR out there about warranty companies, in general so as I talk to people about it and AHS, the horror stories that they've heard, I've never experienced with American Home Shield. Triple S Plumbing came out via American Home Shield but they were not able to do anything because their guy didn't resolve the plumbing problem. He said he wouldn't touch it because of the hole that was there that needed water abatement and because there were molds from a previous leak. He also He told me that I needed to call SERVPRO. That situation ended up where I had to file a claim again with Sears. Eventually, I realized that the malfunctioning washing machine that was in the claim could have been replaced by AHS so I had not ought to have bought it myself. Despite the issues, their reps have been very helpful and AHS did a good job for what I asked them to do.

Our water heater inside was leaking. And then outside, there was a leak in one of the pipes as well. The contractor sent by American Home Shield fixed the problem. However, they had mentioned that they were gonna come by at a certain day but they didn’t come by. I had to call them about a day or two after, but they apologized. They meant to call me. The water heater that they had ordered had not come in yet, so they were unable to come by. But once it came by, they were able to come right out. Then they came out within the time that they stated. They were professional, took care of the problem quickly, and did not do any damage or uncleanliness to the house.
I would recommend American Home Shield. I'll let others know of my experience, some of the issues I’ve had, and how they took care of them. Having AHS could be worth it for some major issues that you might have. Some of the minor ones might not work in going through AHS because they have a deductible which at times, might not exceed the work that a professional might come and do. But other than that, AHS is a good company. They respond quickly and they are attentive to my issue.

We had an AC issue where there was no cool air coming out of it, so I submitted a claim with AHS and they gave me the information of the contractor that was going to inspect it. They said they were supposed to call me within 48 hours, but I never got a call. That was a Friday, so on Monday, I ended up calling the contractors, and they told me that they could do it that day. Somebody came in and he said that there was a Freon leak and they explained whatever it is that was going on in my AC. They were able to fix it and I’m happy. AHS does a good job, responds really quick and they send good contractors that make sure they fix whatever needs to be fixed in a timely manner.

One time, I had a problem with both my washer and my dryer at my rental property. The dryer was screaming and making a bunch of noises. On the other hand, the door switch of the washer was going out and I had to press the door really hard for it to come on. I called my issue in to AHS and their reps were very good. They sent a tech from Stewart's who came within 24 hours. He called me because he had to pick a part up which happened to be the right part at the time for the washing machine. Though he had to come back another time for the dryer, he was still very cooperative and he fixed it. Other people should always use American Home Shield. The few times that I've used their service, it has always been very good.
Hi Patrick,
I enjoyed reading your review regarding your experience to have both the washer and dryer repaired. I hope that you continue to enjoy your warranty with American Home Shield!

I’m a real estate agent and my daughter was selling her house, which we were getting a home warranty for. I started doing some research and figured American Home Shield was the best one to get for the money. I always had a Public Service worry-free contract, which is good, but it’s not complete. I realized that a home warranty is so much better than having the worry-free contract. We purchased a warranty for the property she sold and I purchased a warranty for my house too. I still carry the worry-free contract for the next month or so because I was a little shaky about not having maintenance because I’ve always had something and I’m by myself.
It seemed great that my daughter bought a house in Florida and as a housewarming gift, I got them American Home Shield. In two months, I bought three of them. Around July, my AC wasn’t blowing cold air and I called in my first claim because I didn’t know the procedure. I get a little leery about things online because I feel like nobody’s paying attention. I talked to a human being and they couldn’t have been nicer. I had their cellphones. They called me. They called back to make sure I was okay and the experience couldn’t have been better. They sent somebody out who charged the AC, but about a month later, it wasn’t doing cold air again and AHS sent somebody else out from the same company (Temp Rite), but a different person.
He said that the Freon was so low that he could not charge it. This was when the 100-degree weather started and that was on a Friday. He said they had to have somebody else to check it. It was the coil that was wrong with it and the coil specialist wouldn’t be out until Monday. So Monday, they came out and said it was the evaporator coil and they had to order it. The week went by and they said they needed something special from American Home Shield. It went on into the next week and this was when we were having a heat wave. I called my account representative at American Home Shield and she proceeded to escalate it to someone else. When they called and started to track things down, Temp Rite had not done their job. They had not followed through.
The account representative told me to get somebody local, so I wasn’t being any more inconvenienced. I called a local heating and air conditioning company. RPM came out as soon as they could and they were thorough and complete. They have a great reputation and they live up to it. They did a beautiful job and made sure everything was done right. I couldn’t be happier with them. They confirmed that it wasn’t the evaporator coil. They fed up the AC and it started running, but fireworks started coming out. The tech said it was shot, so we needed a new one. American Home Shield okayed that. It’s done and everything’s been wonderful. It was my first experience with a home warranty company and I didn’t know what everything was, but they were good.
Temp Rite dropped the ball and really screwed. They told AHS one thing and told me something else. AHS went right in and took care of it. I run two brokerage firms with over 200 agents and if they ask me about a home warranty, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. Get the whole package. Don’t get the cheap one. Get the big one. Pay for it. It's worth it. Don’t doubt them.

I would usually call American Home Shield, tell them what’s broken and they send somebody that’s appropriate with whatever is broken and recently, I filed a claim for the garage door. I’m an Uber driver, so I have to leave quickly. So the garage door not working properly has been a nightmare. Before we had AHS, we had people try to fix it and they just did shoddy little work on it and they didn’t fix it.
The contractor AHS sent (Legends Garage Door) was fantastic and their technician was awesome. There was a whole bunch of different things wrong and he fixed everything. He tried to line up the sensor, but he couldn’t get it to line up. So he replaced that and that wasn’t even what we thought was broken with it. He also replaced other stuff that wasn’t working properly. He was really good and he cleaned up everything and he was super polite. The repair made everything totally way better.

The fan of our air conditioning unit outside wasn't turning off which caused the system to overheat. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, but I did it online because calling in takes forever to get somebody on the phone. I've tried it before and sat for two hours waiting to finally get somebody on the phone. Sometimes it's quick, but most of the time, that would take a long time. Their reps have been professional every time I interacted with them, but the wait time is too extravagant.
AHS sends someone out very quickly and it usually takes a day or two. Comfort First Heating and Cooling came out and the technician said that it was a faulty switch relay. It was always electrical issues with it. It worked then something was wrong. I feel that no one's getting to the bottom of what was causing the problems, over and over again so it was costing me a lot more money overall.
Our experience with their technicians has always been pleasant. But the problem has been the system. I've had to do a work order on it 15 times in the past two years and every time, it was something different. If I'm putting two work orders in a month, that's a lot of money I'm still spending paying the premium deduction. Plus on top of that, I'm paying some extra thing for $200 a month, instead of only 44 a month for the trade service fee. Other than that, American Home Shield is great. I'm buying a second home and I'm gonna pick them up also.

There are times when you try to call American Home Shield for anything where you will wait on hold for 45 minutes and have to hang up and when you call again it's the same thing. I hate sounding like I don’t like foreign people, but sometimes, people answer that you really can’t understand. They’re limited in the English language as to the words they understand. Everybody has that complaint.
When they got some contractor to come for my furnace, it was fine, except that the first person they sent out didn’t figure it out correctly. When they came out again, they realized that something additional was wrong so they ordered the part. It’s not their fault that the part has been hard to get, but it’s probably been a week and they still haven’t fixed the furnace. But they called yesterday and they’re coming out tomorrow. I would recommend American Home Shield.

My mom and stepdad were very happy with American Home Shield. Their burner was out and something else malfunctioned with the stove, so they called American Home Shield to fix it. However, AHS decided it was too much to fix and that they would just order a new one. It took a couple of weeks for them to resolve it. My mom and stepdad also phoned in a claim for the AC unit that was in a lake house which was far to any of the providers and was hard to try to get somebody to come out there. So when the contractors came, everybody was very happy. And in both times, they were very happy with the contractors that were sent out.

I submitted claims online with AHS for my washer and my ice maker. The whole user interface, the ease of submitting the ticket and getting things scheduled, were all fantastic. The technician took a look at the icemaker, went out and took apart the washer. He ID’d the parts that he needed and they were able to get those secured, and then the work was scheduled. He ended up injuring himself so I thought we were gonna have to postpone it for a week or two, but then they managed to come in on a Saturday that worked for us and for them. They knocked it out and I was very impressed with both the professionalism and the willingness of that kind of existing field tech who brought a junior tech with him and used it as kind of a training experience. I was happy to be a part of that as well.
The washer and icemaker are now perfect, like a brand-new. Overall, it was super easy for us, and that’s something that we've always experienced with AHS. They have always been very solid when it comes to being able to get us addressed quickly and getting things knocked out when they needed to even though that’s been just a few times.

It’s more convenient for me to file a claim over the phone. You can get a lot of feel from a conversation and get the element of tone. Dealing with the reps of AHS has been favorable. My water heater was replaced, however, I’m not in love with AHS because it cost me $900 out of pocket to bring the water heater up to code. But other than the fact that they didn’t cover everything I was hoping that they would cover, I got a timely response. I was connected with two different organizations that were both very competent, very adequate. They came on time. They did what they had to and were fairly neat. I would definitely recommend AHS.

The dishwasher broke three weeks after we moved into our home. I went online with the handy app that American Home Shield have, and submitting the claim was all done with a push of a button. It's very convenient and very simple. The first tech that came out was outstanding. He gave us the straight scoop that it was irreparable. The dishwasher pump was seized up and he said that it needed to be replaced. He put in the requisition thing, and then I got a call back from American Home Shield in a timely manner. They gave me my options as far as what units were available and what my choices would be. So, we selected the replacement appliance. But it wasn't a good experience because when the appliance came in, the company that initially was coming out to install, was useless.
We waited for a week for the appliance to come in, which was okay. But the installer that American Home Shield was contracted with was horrible. They were just ridiculous. They walked in, looked at the job and said that they didn't do this kind of work. They pretty much took their tools and left. It was pretty bad. I filed a complaint against them. I called back into American Home Shield, and it was phenomenal. They had an installer out within 24 hours, who actually knew what they were doing.
American Home Shield is doing their best to get people off there, representing them and doing a good job. They can't totally predict if we're gonna get a pair of idiots that came out and didn't want to work that day because it was evident that they didn't wanna work. When I filed my complaint about the initial installers that came out, American Home Shield was great. They recovered nicely, and the dishwasher was paid in full, outside of my $75 deductible. Everything has been fine since. It was just a rough situation with the installer, and it had nothing to do with American Home Shield at all.

I've had a great experience with American Home Shield up to this point. Having the warranty is convenient and the service is exceptional. It's well worth the money. When I had issues with my appliances, they said because my issues were all appliances, just one person would come out. It's only one claim. The buttons on my washer didn't work right all the time. The ice maker made ice sporadically, and the dishwasher was leaking on the floor. Submitting the claim was simple.
I preferred to speak with somebody so I called in. They listened to what I had to say and then committed to having somebody get in touch with me within a certain time frame once they were able to find whoever serviced the type of appliances I had. Then that person contacted me within that appropriate amount of time. The contractor was excellent and very professional. They sent me a picture of the technician first off and they were committed to that. I felt that was cool so at least I knew he was coming to the house. Then when he got there, he was very courteous, did whatever he needed to do and did it in the time frame that he said he was gonna get it done in. After the repair, I was able to go on with life. It made life better and more convenient.

Then they took something off and broke something, so they had another day to work on my AC. MY AC wasn’t working and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. They sent out a contractor, Infinity Air, and the tech came out and said that the AC was low on Freon. I questioned that because I had put in that unit in 2013, then the compressor went out in 2016, so the AC has only been used for one season. Still, the tech put in three pounds of Freon, which I had to pay for. But the AC still didn’t work right and they put something for the leaking. Then they said that the coils were bad and they ordered one, but it was the wrong size and was too big for the AC. They told me that it would cost between $2,000 and $3,000 to replace the coil, but they just needed the coils cleaned. They also overcharged me for the Freon and I called them to get my money back, but they wouldn’t give me my $160 back and that was a waste.
All those repairs went on for a month. I have a family with pregnant lady that lived there and at that time, the temperature was 105 degrees, so I had to buy an air conditioning unit just to cool one room down till we could get the situation resolved. I called AHS to complain and let them know about the issues. At first, the reps were saying that there was not much they could do. I ended up calling another company out to fix the problem. After I got the problem resolved, I called AHS back and let them know everything. Rose, the girl that handled the matter at that time, was nice and pretty good. The service fee was deducted and AHS reimbursed me $75 because of all the problems. Prior to that, I was perturbed, but we resolved it all.
In the ten years that I've been with AHS, my experience with them has been fine overall and they have been pretty good to me. But I went through three plumbers and ended up paying an extra service charge because I didn’t believe what the plumber said and I ended up right. Also, I hate going through several contractors until I find the right one. AHS needs to get decent contractors and do a more thorough job on the contractors that they have working for them.

I turned on the heater of my AC unit and it died on me. It had no power, so I called AHS. They sent out K&J Mechanical to check it out but they weren't able to fix it. So, I called AHS again. They sent an electrician out and they fixed it. AHS is pretty proficient when I call. Usually, they give me some contractors and the contractors call me the next day or that day if I call early. However, everything is automated. So, I have to wait and press to talk to a representative so I could actually explain. But other than that, it's great.
I did have one issue, though. I had to call AHS in July for my AC unit. And the company that came out tried to scam me. My compressor went on the AC unit and I had to prepay the Freon. American Home Shield only pays $10 out of each pound. So, I had to prepay it for 11 pounds, so they could come and do the service. So, I had to pay out of pocket $880. I stayed there with the contractors the whole time and then I asked the guy when he was done, how many pounds did it take and he told me seven. So, I'm still fighting since August for a refund for $270.
When it first happened, the lady from AHS said that they could not do anything and that it was the vendor. So, I did that. I called American Home Shield about it the last time I made a service call about a couple of weeks ago. They said they were gonna call me back Monday with their vendor department people. And that was three weeks ago and I'm still waiting for a phone call. I call AHS every week and every week they tell me they put it in but I'm still waiting. Other than that, American Home Shield works for me. It's great and it saves money. I'd tell others to get it as well. There were a lot of people that recently got a house in a storm and they don't know anything about insurances like that and I refer AHS all the time.

It's almost impossible every time I call AHS. The hold time there is too long. But the two times I filed a claim, I've just done it on the recorded line and it's been pretty straightforward. They were responsive. By the time I got off the phone, I had a text message with the company that was gonna service it. They have an automated system where you can request help and that usually dispatches someone out or creates a ticket for the issue. What impressed was even though it wasn’t resolved the first time, they stayed on top of it and checked in to see if it was working, and was squeezing me in as they have a bunch of appointments. They were pretty flexible. I wish it had been done right the first time, but it seems to be working fine now.
AHS has been pretty straightforward. There's only been two times I've used AHS that I've had to use the automated system. I've never talked to a live person so that would be, at best, provide more comfort in the future. I haven't had any issues with this but if you have questions or want more information you would love to talk to a live person. I would recommend AHS as long as one would be okay using the automated system. But if you want to talk to a live person, that’s not a strength of theirs.

I am very impressed with American Home Shield. They're very responsive and automated. Once you get your account set up, you don’t need to sit online. If you have to call in, make sure you got 45 minutes if you got to call in on a midday. But online, you can just log in and submit your request. When my water heater was broken, I opened up a claim online and requested a plumber to come out. The plumber came out, said the water heater was shot and needed to be replaced. So, he then gave me an estimate. He came up with a couple options and I found the water heater that I wanted to do. I opted to move to a gas in-line, which was a lot more, so AHS gave me a cash-in-lieu offer on it. Then I got the cash, and I installed a gas fired in-line water heater.
The plumber was gonna try and submit his bill, and then reduce the cost because they gave me a reimbursement amount. What I put in was more expensive. I was negotiating with him, and I wanted to run it through American Home Shield. Instead of taking the cash-in-lieu, he could make it a discount onto the work. That could have been an easier transition, but I have a refrigerator replaced with American Home Shield. It went through the cash-in-lieu process. They sent me a link that said, “Hey, pick this refrigerator out.” And I said, “I don’t want any of those. I’ll take the cash-in-lieu,” and I bought a different refrigerator. So that worked.
I would have liked to see the water heater go to that path. The plumber was gonna put in a standard water heater, and I didn’t want his water heater. It would have been electric. It didn’t meet the needs I needed. I had a big water heater in there. And he came back and said, “Well, they don’t make that anymore. I’m gonna put this in.” When I told him that I wanted gas, he said, “Well, you need to go and get a cash-in-lieu, and we can put a gas in,” whereas the appliance worked a little bit different. They could have put up a link that said, “Hey, here’s hot water heaters. Go look at them.” But they didn’t do it like they did the appliance.
The appliance was a good stream. They said, "We’re gonna replace your refrigerator. Here’s the link, pull up the page, pick a refrigerator.” I could have done the same thing for our water heater. I could have looked at the hot water heater options and if I didn’t like anything, I could have done a cash-in-lieu. Instead, I had to go through the plumber to do that. So it got a little confusing. We’re still working through it. The water heater’s in. He’s still got to come out to fix some stuff. But all in all, it’s been great.

AHS' customer service was nice and very helpful. When we had a claim for our air conditioner, they helped in finally finding someone to come out. They had some contractor that they used but he didn’t wanna come out because the payment system was messed up. AHS got that resolved and the contractor came out and fixed my air conditioning. He was fine. When our light switch was messed up and didn't work, I called in my claim to AHS and pushed a couple of buttons. Someone called me and set up a time to come out. A contractor came out and the light works now.
With AHS, a claim is a pretty easy process as long as they have a contractor that works in the area. You don’t have to speak to someone every time on the phone. You can just push buttons and it's set up. I like not having to wait on hold to speak to someone when I'm in a hurry. Some people might not like that, though. And as long as AHS' payment system is fixed and the contractors get paid, they'll come out and do the job. I like AHS so far.

I have a dual stage air conditioning unit in my house, one upstairs and one downstairs. The downstairs unit quit running so I called American Home Shield. They had service guys from GSSN come out. It took them a couple of days to get to my place. Every time I've had to call in, it has been a few days before a contractor comes. When my hot water heater went out last year, it was a week before somebody got out there. So, my complaint has been the turnaround of the service call. For the air conditioner, that issue is the product of only having so many certified technicians that do the warranty work. It was just a bad relay in the air compressor, the startup part of the air conditioner.
GSSN has been out to the house quite a few times, and they always seem to do a great job. I have no issues with them. I'd recommend GSSN. They're a good outfit. I'm also good with American Home Shield. The only thing I didn’t care for was when the hot water heater was replaced, they covered the replacement but did not cover the updated codes that had to be updated.
I don’t have an issue with updating to make sure everything’s compliant with the new codes. What I do have an issue though with is the catch pan for the hot water heater, which is a $20 item that I can go to any Home Depot or Lowe’s and purchase for $20. American Home Shield charged me for the upgrade $125 for the catch pan. I don’t mind paying for the code updates to remain compliant like the gas sensor, and the exhaust pipes, but when it's something as simple as a catch pan, I'm paying four times the money for it.
Still, American Home Shield has been great. Anything that’s ever had to be done to my home has been done fairly quickly. I understand that in the summertime, everybody’s got air conditioning problems and I understand it takes a couple of days to get to me. All in all, I'm very satisfied with AHS and we'll continue our business with them.

We needed a new pool heater and I put in a claim. AHS gave me the name of the company. I called them and I made the appointment. The pipe is kind of like a T. From the same pipe, one goes into the house and the other one goes to the pool house. When the technicians were taking the old heater out for the pool, they didn’t disconnect the gas line when they were trying to maneuver it around. The gas line cracked so it was leaking natural gas.
I called We Energies to come out because it was an outside pipe and we weren’t sure how to close it. We had to hire a plumber to replace the pipe. Supposedly, American Home Shield would replace the pipe if it was in the house but it wasn't. We ended up paying to have a new gas line buried and it was 80 feet from where the side of the house is to the pool house.
Also, when a new pipe was brought, it wasn't placed so it was solid and it didn't wobble. With a hard gas line, it has to be solidly mounted so it doesn’t have the problem of shifting and possibly breaking the gas line. The flue had to be replaced because the one that was there wouldn’t fit it. The technicians didn't have pride in their workmanship. They kinda rushed to get it done. There were screws missing, too, from the cover for it. A special shield had to be put in for the exhaust.
I’m not happy with the way that the technicians did things. They left the box that the new flue came in and they didn’t connect the new flue to the top of the heater, so that also can be moved around in that. They just didn’t do their job. Our regular pool guy that comes here to drain the pool saw what the technicians had done and said that they didn't measure. There was no room to maneuver around it anymore. At least with the old one, there was a couple of inches that you wouldn’t be hitting the heater to take the cover off to get to the filters.
Otherwise, I like American Home Shield. That was why I switched to them. But when someone originally takes on American Home Shield, they should prepare the consumer as far as “Your deductible will be $100 per incident.” If that’s what they’re gonna do, then they should subtract whatever the cash would be to make it $100. They should also mention that depending on what state you live in, they’re gonna charge tax.

The pilot light went out on my water heater. When I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for that plumbing issue, it was a combination of going online and calling them because I was trying to get it expedited. Initially, they referred me to a plumber out of Tri-Cities, which is 50 miles away and it was gonna be 72 hours for them to respond. I called AHS back and asked them to change the contractor to a local plumber because I wanted quicker service. They referred me to another contractor, A-1 Plumbing, that was here locally and A-1's plumber came out that afternoon and helped me relight the water heater. The claim went well and everything is working fine now. A-1 is one of the best plumbing outfits in the area. They did some work for me before when I had another claim with AHS for a water leak in the house. I had called AHS before I called A-1, so I knew that they're an authorized contractor of AHS. A-1 did a first class job in both cases.
When I first moved in, I also had a refrigerator that quit working. The computer and the ice maker had gone out on it. I got a claim going with AHS and they responded quickly and got a repairman in here. He replaced the ice maker and the computer on the refrigerator. But two weeks later, the ice maker quit working again.
I didn't let AHS know that the refrigerator wasn't working again and I just bought a new refrigerator. I didn't think they would have been as quick to respond on a replacement refrigerator and if all they were gonna do was have the old refrigerator repaired again, I didn't want anything to do with that because I was fed up with that refrigerator at that point. It was obvious that I bought a lemon, so I wanted it out of my house. Too bad it was a high-end refrigerator and very expensive to replace, but I'll put that on me and I can't necessarily blame AHS for that experience. Despite that, I would recommend getting an AHS warranty to anybody who is buying a home.

I had a bad motor on my air conditioner one time and filed a claim with AHS. The gentleman who came out was very prompt and efficient. He knew what he was doing. He didn’t have the right motor, but he had a motor and he made it work. He changed the motor and got my house cold. That puts more air conditioner in there. I really had a wonderful experience with him.
Another time, I had another claim for my tub and American Home Shield sent a young man out. He looked at the thing and said that the motor was working. He said he could not fix it and left. My water pump still doesn’t work, however, and I’m out $75. American Home Shield won’t cover anything but that pump and I’m disturbed by the whole situation. He was a nice enough young man, but I already knew the pump was working before he even came out there and I called so they could work on this tub. I'm frustrated. Maybe they’re gonna resolve the problem later on but I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield right now.
Good evening Mr. Bearden,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service to have the water pump repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

American Home Shield is the worst company I ever had dealt with. When my A/C broke in the middle of June's heat in Arizona, they left me and my family in brutal AZ temperatures above 105 degrees. 3 days waiting before they sent their 'expert' A/C company. When their so called 'tech' arrived first he made sure that he got his $125 service fee covered. Then, he hardly took time to check the A/C unit before telling me that he needs to order a part and it will take anywhere between 10 - 15 business days before he can come back with the part to install it and have the unit fixed. Of course, I told him that I did not want to have any business with him or with AHS anymore. My friendly advice to you is to do yourselves a favor and forget about the American Home Shield and give your business elsewhere to some serious professionals who will care about you.
Good morning Rod,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent AHS experience to have the air conditioner repaired. Per your review, the issue was not repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the situation that has occurred.

I have seven properties under American Home Shield and I have an inside rep that I deal with directly. I file my claims over the phone, but if I have any problems, I can email my rep and she fixes it. I have more than one warranty but I can't make more than one password with my email, so I can't file my claims online, which is really annoying. I have to wait on hold forever when I call AHS. It takes about 40 minutes to call in and pay a bill. This is why I have one outstanding right now and I figured they will eventually call me because I can't sit on hold any longer. Other than that, everybody at AHS was really polite and they listen to what you say. But it's a problem if you don't get the people that speak English, which more and more now in Tennessee.
If you buy a property and the coils in the air conditioner are dirty, AHS won't cover the whole unit, and they don't disclose that. Overall, their contractors have been really good. The only thing is that if you call in on Friday, you're not gonna get anybody till Monday and then they usually don't come till Tuesday. Otherwise, everybody has been pretty quick and they come out right away.

I couldn't open our oven. The hinges on the door quit working. I called in a claim, AHS set it up and a guy called. He came a couple days later, took it all apart and ordered the parts. The parts were UPSed here and the next day, the guy came and fixed the oven. The oven is great and it's better than buying a new one. This was the third time that I used AHS since we’ve lived here and it was a pretty simple process. The first time we used them, it was for the air conditioner.
When I bought the house, the homeowner had to supply the warranty first because I got a VA loan. The air conditioner went out within that first year. We called AHS, paid the 75 bucks service call and the contractor fixed it. I did the math and it would be close to five years of paying for the warranty that I would have broken even if I had to pay for the AC out of pocket. The dishwasher broke last year and then the stove recently. These things are not expensive. But still, 75 bucks is a lot cheaper. AHS has been pretty great and everyone sent out here has been really excellent. I’m glad I kept AHS after the first year on the house was up. I’ve recommended them to quite a few people.

The grounding wire in the GFCI circuit that was coated with paint, wasn't grounding. The contractor AHS sent cut off the end of the wires and reinserted them, and it worked. However, the contractor was very anti-social as far as returning phone calls and communicating with you on the phone. I had to call them about six times and they could have called when they were coming out. Other than that, it was a good experience and the repairs were completed.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience David. We are happy to hear that your issue has been resolved. Have an amazing weekend!

My washing machine had an error code. I filed a claim online and American Home Shield's website is much better than the other one I've used. The tech who came out was a nice guy. He was only there for about 15 minutes. He fixed the one code where it worked, but it was another part. So, he ordered the part and then came back in three days to install it. It was very easy and everything worked out just fine. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

Customer service at American Home Shield has always been really good. Recently, the pool liner had a bad filter and Pool Doctor redid the liner for us. That wasn’t covered by AHS, but we had a pool filter that was leaking that was covered. The liner had a leak in it and the filter was leaking, so we ended up paying for the new liner and then AHS picked up replacing the filter for us.
My only real complaint is the length of time that it takes for a technician to diagnose whatever the problem is and to get the authorization to do the repair or the replacement. Oftentimes that puts you in a very inconvenient situation. I had a problem with my refrigerator and the tech guy had the part on his truck, but he couldn’t replace it because he had to wait to get the authorization. It takes two or three days for the authorization to come through to even order the part, and then another two or three days for the parts to come in. Then, you’ve got a scheduling issue where you have to schedule your time with the technician’s time so they could come out to actually do the repair. The techs that have come out so far seem very capable, but they always have to come back. If the technician comes out and is allowed to get on the phone with an authorizing official from American Home Shield while he’s there on the job, they can do it right then and there.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for my washer, and the contractor was here in just a few days. The first guy thought he had it fixed but he didn’t really do anything. He put a little bit of water in it and then ran it through and you could run it through with a little bit of water in it but it didn't work if you put clothes in that little bit of water. So, I called back and told them that it hadn’t worked and they sent somebody else that came out.
I really liked the second guy that came out. He was great. He knew that it needed a couple of certain things, and he said it might need more stuff. He got it running, and then we got some clips when he tore it all apart to put this other stuff in. There were these little clips that he had to order. It took a while but it was all necessary stuff, and it was all very worth it. I was really happy. The washer has been wonderful since the repair.
I liked that American Home Shield was interested and they paid attention to me and called and checked to see how things were going. The only problem that we had was that because we thought it was fixed, they went ahead and took $110. And then because it wasn’t fixed, after it got fixed, they wanted another $110. But I called them and told them that they had taken this out on a certain day and they, in fact, said, "Yes, we did and we'll take care of this." But then they didn’t take care of it for a month or so later. I got another bill and I called to see if there was a problem that I did owe it, but I didn’t, so that was taken care of, too.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield is very easy when I do it over the internet. Sometimes, I have to call it in because the internet won't take it and that's when it takes a little longer. Also, the contractors they send out are pretty good but I don't like the plumbing company they use here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Most recently, my furnace was red-tagged when the city came over because it wasn't meeting some vacuums and they said it needed to be replaced. I called AHS and asked them to come over and fix it. This plumbing company they sent out didn't replace it and just went ahead and fixed it. They said it just needed cleaning.
I can't test the furnace because I don't live in the property so I don't know whether that was it but I will call AHS because I don't like those plumbing people. And I'm gonna call the city back again so they can re-check the system to see whether what the plumbing company did is correct. What the city detected was carbon monoxide so, I'm kinda concerned about that. The unit is 35 years old and the plumbing company should have replaced it. Other than that, American Home Shield is very good about everything. I never had any issues with them. If the plumber had recommended that they upgrade the unit, they would have gone along with it. I have AHS with all the properties that I have and I always recommend them to other people because they always come through.

We made a claim with American Home Shield for an AC issue and the guy from Total Heating took forever to get to us. Normally, people get to us within 48 hours or sooner than that. AHS has been really good. I had to call and ask why he had not contacted me yet. Then they gave me the number. The guy was friendly in person but in the beginning, he was rude on the phone. But I know it was the busiest time and it was hot, and everybody's stuff was breaking. When he came out, he was nice and he fixed the problem. He said, "What's the problem?" and I completely walked him through it because my little one did it. The person that had first came out a year ago for one of the air conditioners was better than the guy from Total Heating. He was nicer and more professional.
Since the repair, our AC has been working good and it's not hot anymore. When I turn it on, it feels like he should've checked a little bit more to make sure it was completely good. But, it's fine now. American Home Shield were on their business, and they got to me and made me call him and they were finding out what was going on with him. People talk bad about AHS, but I haven't had a bad experience yet. So far, so good.

Our hot water control valve was malfunctioning. My wife filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the claims process was really good. American Home Shield is generally very responsive. They take the claim and we get a callback from the repair people. The technicians AHS they sent out were courteous and did their job. The valve is now working very well. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

The icemaker was leaking. I went on American Home Shield's website and requested service. It was simple to do and the contractors they sent out were all right. They had to leave and come back with another part. So it took a few extra days but it was fixed in the end. Everything’s working fine and I really appreciate having AHS' service.

When my microwave broke, I submitted a request for support on American Home Shield’s website and their response was quick. A guy showed up a couple of days later and fixed it one time. He was nice and did the work promptly. But two weeks later, the microwave broke again. I don’t know why it is not fixed, but there must be something to work with. So, I had to reopen the inquiry for them to reopen the service request and the guy is supposed to come again.
I also learned two things with my American Home Shield experience. First, they are very difficult to get a hold of on the phone. I've called so many times and I've been always on hold. It's been always more than 30 minutes wait. Getting them on the chat has been much simpler, though. And second, I have a service payment issue ongoing for the other service inquiry. It has been more than a month and there has been no one to resolve the issue. They are just bouncing it in their departments and still, nothing is fixed. American Home Shield has to improve their customer service and have more manpower in their call center.

American Home Shield had our oven and dishwasher fixed. I submitted the claims online and the process was really easy. The guy AHS sent was really nice and he seemed to really know what he was doing and talking about. It was a good experience. So far, everything that I've had to do with American Home Shield has been easy and everyone has been really helpful.
