Whenever I needed to submit a claim with American Home Shield, I would call and then they would tell me that someone would reach out to me within 24 to 48 hours to set up an appointment to come to the house. Overall, I’ve been happy with the service. With my most recent claim however, I was disappointed because they double charged me for the $75 fee.
They sent out D&J Appliances for my icemaker on my refrigerator and I had to call them back because it was not making ice for two weeks. I had to buy ice because we do not have ice at home since we were waiting on the tray to fill up. We had to slack up on using the ice because I wanted to monitor and definitely see if the icemaker was working. The tech was supposed to come last Friday, and then Saturday, and he didn’t come. Then Monday, the day before the second visit, the ice tray was filled. So on the day of his visit, Tuesday, I called D&J Appliances, spoke with Jasmine and I told her that we then had ice. Although I don't know if anything was still wrong with it because it should not take two weeks to make ice. And Jasmine agreed with me that it should not take that long, so we kept the appointment. The guy came back and checked it out and said that it looked like it was already working.
So because of that visit, AHS has been calling me saying that I owe $75, and I don’t understand why because it took the guy two weeks to come back to the house. I called back within 30 days, and I know I cannot go past that because, if I did, then I would understand if I had to pay. I have spoken to a supervisor at AHS and he said that I have to get with D&J about this. But I should not be in the middle of this. They covered me with their contractor, but now I have to deal with their contractor to fix the problem.
I called D&J anyway and told Jasmine about the situation. She told me she would contact AHS and let them know that I should not be charged another $75. She was very apologetic about it and she said that if AHS doesn’t clear all this up, she would credit me or she would do something. The people at D&J have been very nice and Jasmine is trying to work things out with AHS. So now, I am hoping that AHS would take that double charge out because if they would not, I won’t be happy and would tell people about them. We pay $62.99 every month, and then $75 if anything goes wrong, and until this last incident, I have been pleased with them.

I had an issue with the dishwasher so I called American Home Shield. Vector came out and bought a part that they put it and left. My mother was there and she said it looked like the guy didn't know what he was doing. He was having a rough time. Then, I found out it was not working and it wasn’t even fixed. I called AHS and they sent Oreon who was able to fix it. They said it was not really the part that was needed to be replaced. They bought a part and their guy replaced it. The dishwasher has been working well from then. I paid my deductible of $75 but AHS continued to bill me another $75 for Vector. I had to call twice but it hasn't been resolved yet.

I signed up with AHS recently and it was a good thing. I had an issue with my heating and submitting the claim was easy. The contractors were very good and professional. They responded really quickly, and they came out and assessed the situation. The problem ended up being the blower motor. I was a bit confused when they looked at what was needed and said they needed authorization to proceed. They told me that sometimes AHS denies that amount of work or the claim and that concerned me. But they ordered the parts and were back within a day and a half. I was able to get heat when I needed it and AC when I needed it during those couple of hot days.

The ice maker was not working and one of the trays inside was busted. Submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield was fast and easy. They suggested Fidelity, which I don't care for, so I asked if I could have somebody else out. They then sent me Horace from Integrity. Horace was professional and quick, and he knew stuff. He fixed the freezer. I was really happy with my service. Prior to this, I had another home with AHS and I was pretty pleased with everything, too. Everything was quick and easy. I like doing things online but I also like the fact that I can call in and talk to somebody. I have only had one issue a few years ago but, other than that, AHS has been a great service. They changed everything in my prior house. They fixed the dishwasher and they replaced the microwave. The stove also had a slight problem and they were on it. They did a great job and that was why we went with them again.
Thank you, Leaenna for all of the positive feedback. AHS truly appreciates your patronage!

Our washing machine wasn't spinning right nor was it letting the water out right. I had an excellent interaction with American Home Shield's contractor, Suffolk Appliance. They came out in a timely manner. They were very professional and they dealt with the claim. I went online thereafter to find that I got an email from AHS letting me know that I was approved to get another washing machine. I went to the store to look around, and I got one there. I've been satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield and I recommend them to my neighbors and friends.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for an air conditioning unit in my mother’s house, and I used their online site. It's a very good site, but it was a little confusing because they told me online that I should call the contractor but the text message said the contractor would call me. Anyway, the contractor came and he was very friendly and accommodating. He had to come out three different times to do repairs on the same unit though.
I was a little frustrated because my mother is an old lady and she was in the house, and the unit would work for two to four days and would go down again, and she would have to wait for the contractor to come out. The contractor wanted to replace the unit but American Home Shield said no. They insisted that he must find a way to fix it and he did. But it took him about eight weeks to get it fixed. During that period, we had to install window air conditioning units to keep my mom comfortable. It was a little inconvenient, but we had it worked out. Then after the final repair was done, she used it for around four weeks and it worked fine.
I also have my personal home covered through American Home Shield and I had them send someone to look at my oven. The contractor said it can’t be repaired and that American Home Shield would contact me. I waited around three weeks, but I didn’t hear from them. I called them to know what the plan was and, basically, they said they can’t repair nor replace it. I have a high-end oven and apparently there was a limit on how much they would reimburse for appliances. So, up until now, I can’t find a replacement of the same size oven, other than the same brand. I’m also looking at other possible home warranty companies. The people at American Home Shield are not very good communicators and I've had mixed experiences with them.
I was hoping they would be honest in terms of fixing what needs to be fixed and replacing what needs to be replaced, but I don’t think they completely are. If you have a house with expensive appliances, don’t get American Home Shield. They’re not gonna repair them if there are no parts for them and they’re not gonna replace them. Also, if you have a house with old AC units, they’re gonna do everything in their power to fix and not replace them.

During the renovation prior to me buying the house, a pipe near the sink got unlodged from somewhere. I called American Home Shield on that but the gentleman that was here said that it was normal wear and tear and that it wasn't warranty covered. So, at the end of the day, it wasn't rectified. Then recently, I was showering and my son told me that my basement was flooding. That happened to me before and I kinda automatically knew that it was my sink pipe. I called American Home Shield and on the first call, it seemed like no one would listen to me. So I had to call several times before I finally got somebody who was taking what I was saying. I spoke to her to honor a second opinion and she told me that my $100 fee would be waived because of the added stress that I was going through with my claim.
After that, Gregory Plumbing & Heating Ltd. came out and the man that came saw that the pipe, which was the one I had an issue before, was sticking out. It was an old piece of pipe and he did everything the other people didn't do. He flushed the toilet, saw where the water was coming from, and it turned out that my sink pipe burst. He was on the point but it took him too long to get back to me to let me know when he could start the job. So, before the repair, I couldn't use my bathroom and since I only have one bathroom, I had to go stay with my aunt for a couple of weeks until I got everything done. The incident happened on August 16 and I was battling with American Home Shield for almost two weeks. Then Gregory Plumbing didn't come out until sometime in September, so the whole thing took a month.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Over a week ago, we filed a claim for furnace repairs. The furnace in our condo in which our son & daughter-in-law live stopped working. They were given a few companies to call to schedule a service call. These companies were in other states! I called and was put on hold then disconnected. I had to call back. They said they would find someone and if I didn't hear from them in 24 hours to call back and they would authorize me to call someone on my own. No word after 24 hours so I called back in. They put me on hold while they tried to call someone. Now they said they will call me back today. I'm not hiding my breath.
It's been over a week and it is below freezing at night and yet they want me to co time to wait. They lied to me about the authorization and are hell-bent on finding someone after over a week of trying. Each time my son and I have made calls, the hold time is suspiciously a half an hour (give or take a couple of minutes). I don't know how this will finish but I don't think it will be favorable. I have 2 contracts with AHS and will cancel once this issue is tested- if it is resolved. I will be writing to the attorney general once I'm done with this.

Home Shield denied it. I have gone back-and-forth with them APX 10 times wasting 20 days and incredibly frustrated having to bathe my children in freezing water. I pay over $800 a year for this warranty and have been with them for many years. It's my opinion that all they care about is replacing things with the least expensive way that they can get away with and not the proper way that it should be done. It is October 25 and it is still not resolved. On October 5, 2018 our water heater started to leak so we had to shut it off. We called American Home Shield. A plumber came out the next day and said the water heater needs to be replaced October 6. We have an 80-gallon water heater with a recirculating pump. The recirculating pump is so we have hot water on the far end of our house instantly when we open the valve.
American Home Shield said they cannot get any 80-gallon water heaters anymore that they would replace it with a 50-gallon water heater and a unit called a mixing valve. I researched a mixing valve. The way this works is you will increase the water temperature of the water heater to APX 140° which will make it heat the water quicker which gives it about a 25% increase in water capacity. So that's about 60 gallons. What the mixing valve does it takes 150° water and cools it to a desired temperature APX 120° with the cold water which goes out to the house. Two problems with this. The main problem is we have a recirculating pump. Which means the water would come out of the mixing valve at 120, get recirculated through our house and go back into the water heater at 120°. So the water heater would then reheat it again to 140 and send it back out.
So the water heater will never shut off. It will always be reheating the water because the water heater is set at 140°. This has been explained to American Home Shield multiple times but they don't care. They insist it will work. I have talked to three other plumbers and they agreed it is not the correct way to do it. It is the least expensive way to do it. It would also increase my electric bill and make the water heater work much harder. And also only give me a 60-gallon capacity, not 80 gallons. All the plumbers I talked to said the only way to accomplish this would be a 50-gallon water heater with a booster pump which cost APX $350 on top of the 50-gallon water heater.

THIS IS AN AWFUL COMPANY. We have had a contract with AHS for several years, just called spoke with someone at the office to get a ceiling fan repaired. Someone came and after taking it apart, we were informed that we had no coverage. I spoke with service, asked why at the time I spoke with rep that it wasn't told, no answer except that I was lying. Then asked to speak to a manager or supervisor, and told by a Shanon, very rudely, no one else there but her.
After calling back several times I asked if I paid for the difference for the past 3 months since my contract renewed to add this feature, no. That said, would rather I cancel my coverage. Collecting over 800 per year for several years, very bad company policies, and out of 10 people I spoke with, perhaps 1 was worth it. I will NEVER suggest to anyone to used this co., maybe because they were first, they think they don't need to give any service anymore. Wait on phone always 45 min at least, and then hung up on. We found an excellent rated #1 co. now. Good luck to any who uses this co., suggest you do some research.

Occasionally, when closing the washer, it wouldn't work and so, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online and it was simple and quick. You just pick what it was, what you needed and it was fine. We were in North Carolina and we had Hurricane Florence headed that way. I was thinking that I was gonna have a washer full of wet clothes and there were other critical things but the very next morning, the repairman called and asked if he could come out that morning. It was a Maytag washer and he asked me its age which was 11 years old. So he knew the options of what was wrong. He came out and fixed it the very next morning. He was very polite, knowledgeable and professional. Since then, the washer been working fine.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is freestyle where they just ask the questions, I give the answers and they make it happen. When something had to be done with my HVAC system, the contractor that they sent was in and out in no time at all ‘cause they knew exactly what was wrong and they were very good. American Home Shield did a good job and I'm glad that they have a system where I can pay on a monthly basis and it's automatic.

The garbage disposal was not functioning. We knew that it was covered with American Home Shield so we made a call. The plumbing company was very responsive and they sent a text message right away, saying that they would have one of their representatives call to set up the service call. They came out and said it was repaired the first time, but it wasn't. They had to come out three times to make it work right and replace the garbage disposal. It ended up being resolved at that time.
However, the contractors' times were really strange and not accommodating for people that work. They would say they could be there between 7AM and noon. My wife and I would both be leaving the house to go to work at 6AM so getting our times coordinated was kind of a challenge. But overall, they did good work, were professional and courteous. We turn the switch on, the garbage disposal works, so that's all good. We're happy. It was a positive experience overall.

I’ve been dealing with American Home Shield for a while and they’ve always treated me fairly. The water closet for my toilet was leaking and I filed a claim online. The site's navigation was good, but the first plumber AHS sent out had an attitude and I will never do business with that company again. I knew what the problem was, tried to explain it to the contractor, and he just kept telling me that the floor was warped and there was a crack in the tile, so there was a crack in the floor, but it was just the tile that was cracked. He said it wasn’t covered, that AHS wouldn’t allow him to do anything because he can’t do anything if the floor is cracked. AHS sent out another plumber to look at it and he listened. He was professional, did what a plumber was supposed to do and made the necessary repairs.

Our refrigerator kept turning off on its own and everything inside it would go bad. And then, it would come back on. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield via their app. Their mechanic was quick and knew exactly what was going on. He said that there was something wrong with the compressor or the motor. Thereafter, I spoke to a woman and she assisted me. She made everything really easy. She helped me with the replacement and going through what the mechanic found to be wrong with my fridge. However, it turned out that it couldn't be repaired so I just got a new one instead. I highly recommend AHS to all of my friends. Their customer service has been great and I like how quick they are to resolve any claims.
We thank you for taking the time to share your warranty experience David. We are happy to know that you are pleased with AHS. Have an amazing week!

American Home Shield usually sends very good people and I never had a bad experience with them. But this last time, they sent someone who added some Freon to my AC and said that was the problem. But nothing happened. There was still no air coming out, no cold or hot. I called the same guy back but he said that was all I was gonna get. So I called American Home Shield and requested for a second visit. I asked them not to send this person because I had paid him $100 and yet, he just walked away and did nothing. The $100 was the deductible in addition to extra fees that he asked for for stuff that American Home Shield wouldn't cover. American Home Shield said I might have to pay another $100 and I said, “Fine, but don’t send me this guy again.” The representative said that they would not pick or send the contractor to me again.
I was surprised that an hour after I hung up, I found the same guy calling me saying that American Home Shield had called him to fix the problem. And he said he would come right then. I asked him what he meant and he said that he was right next to my house. When I told him that I wasn't at the house, he said, “So you want me to come or no? You want me to fix it or no?” Was I supposed to throw up everything I was doing and go home? But that was what he wanted and I ended up going home.
The next day, I still had the same problem. The fan worked on and off, and every time I told him there was a problem in the unit, he would say, “When I come, it works.” I told him that I couldn't tell him how to diagnose the problem. That is part of what he does. I'm a physician and when a patient comes to me telling me he has certain symptoms on and off, I don't tell him to go home because he doesn't have his symptoms at the moment. But he went home and I decided to suck it up. It was too late anyway. The summer was over. He took my money and didn't do what he was supposed to do, either because he didn't know how to or because he thought it was the end of the season and it was a chance for him to do nothing and go.
American Home Shield didn't do anything about it either. They had promised me that they were gonna send someone else and especially since I agreed to pay the $100 again, they should have kept what we talked about. They should have followed up as well. The upper floor was intolerable and when the temperature was high, the kids and I would go into the basement. We were even sleeping in the basement. If this would be the case, why am I paying for insurance then? My concern now is that next year, I would have the same problem. I would call Home Shield and they would say that since it's an old problem, they might not cover it. On the other hand, I've been with American Home Shield for some time and my last experience was completely different than any other times. Before that experience, I used to recommend the company to everyone.

The condenser outside the house wasn’t keeping up with the house because it was too old. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was a little frustrating because I kept getting people from overseas. They kept transferring from one rep to the other rep and I had to retell my story. Then, my Realtor gave me the number to somebody here in town and that worked fine. But a lot of times, if I was at work, AHS customer service reps would email me and they were pretty good at getting back to me.
The first contractor that was sent out was no good and they would never answer their phones. They came to the house three or four times saying that they had fixed the issue. The refrigerant was leaking and the guy went to fill up the refrigerant and fix the leak, but the unit was so old that it wasn’t keeping up. So then he went again, and he said, “Well, there is no fan in the living room,” when there was a fan in the living room. Then he said it was the curtain and that I got to move them so that the vents are working properly. I had to have AHS send a different contractor because they couldn’t get it fixed. The second contractor was pretty good and they replaced the condenser outside the house. It was working fine after that. I would recommend AHS. It's a good investment.

American Home Shield did fine on the claim I submitted online for a plumbing issue. They got a plumber out and he found the problem. However, I also had a claim for the refrigerator where I spoke to the AHS reps because there was a breakdown of communication between the appliance repair guy and them. I had to play go-between and get them communicating. But in AHS's defense, my assigned repair guy had a communication issue. So, I can't put all the faults on AHS. The repair guy wasn’t good about letting people know what was going on and he seemed a little slow. Still, I would tell others that they can use AHS but they shouldn't wait for AHS to make an appointment because it tends to take too long. So, by calling the assigned company directly, they will get someone out faster.

The dishwasher was leaking and it also had a nasty odor to it like it was retaining water inside. Aside from that, the soap holder was also old and bad. It wasn't holding the soap like it should be so it created a whole big mess. American Home Shield's online process for claims submission seems easy. I submitted the claim online and then a representative called me the next day. After that, Exclusive Appliance took care of everything that needed to be taken care of. They also explained every step of the process and went above and beyond. The dishwasher seems to be working fine now.
I also called about the refrigerator within the same claim. The refrigerator was also leaking and on the first time that the technician came out, he temporarily fixed it. But it started leaking again so the next time that he came out, and he had to come back out for the dishwasher anyway, I alerted him to that. He resolved that issue. I couldn’t get the burners in my stove to work in order to cook my food. Able Appliances has been to my home several times so I know the technicians and I trust them in my home with me. They wrote up the claim and said that they would get back with me once they find out what American Home Shield was gonna do, because he said the burners and some of the fixtures or screws in the stove needed to be replaced. I waited about a week and called Able Appliance back. I asked them what was going on with it and if they had heard anything. They said no, but they gave me a number to call American Home Shield. So I called and AHS said that they were reviewing it and trying to see if they could get the parts to get it to Able Appliance. They told me to give them a call in another week.
So I waited another week and gave them a call. They determined that they couldn’t get the parts for it and sent me an e-mail with the link to get a new range. I was able to select from the approved ones and AHS wanted to go with the company to get it ‘cause it's covered under the original warranty. So, Able Appliance didn’t come back out to install it. The new company that I got the range from did. I called in between times when they were doing that because I had already been out of my range for three weeks so I was ready to cook at my house.
I've been with American Home Shield for about 10 and a half years and I like them. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I've submitted claims online a lot of times but since I have multiples and it's difficult to do that online, I just tend to call. That way, they could bank them all together. However, you need to be able to be on hold for about 45 minutes to an hour and talk with somebody. Then, they would take care of you. AHS should act the fastest so they could get help with the service. They are growing so it’s time to add more staff to help facilitate some of the calls and the concerns from the customers. Nevertheless, American Home Shield is an excellent company and Able Appliance is a good and reliable one.

We've been with American Home Shield for about seven years and our experience is always positive. We have it on our home where we live and on a house that we rent. Claims are submitted online and we've always had good service. It's been great so we were able to keep our Home Shield warranty. We're content. Lately, we had a lot of things getting old and going out all at once in the house that we rent. And the plumbing guy has been really good. We also had to tear up and redo the refrigerator. That was with Lowe's and that was a good experience too. The most recent claim was for the dishwasher. It had something to do with the door and the dishwasher is getting switched out. The refrigerator stays cold too so the renters are happy.

I sometimes call American Home Shield to submit a claim but I’ve been doing it online lately and I don’t have an issue with it. The techs they have sent out have been professional and do the work. Recently, I submitted a claim for the pool control valve of the spa jets of our pool as it was inoperative. The contractor who came out looked at the valve and determined it was bad. He ordered the part and replaced it a week later. I've been using them for five years now and everything they’ve done for me has been excellent.

I know that when I call American Home Shield, they are gonna get somebody out who will take care of the problem. I go to the website to submit claims and it's really quick and easy. Everything gets set up and I hear from them quickly. Every one of the contractors sent by American Home Shield has been great as well. I had A-US Air come out once for a problem with my compressor. The capacitor blew up last summer and a mouse crawled in there, and they fixed it.
With another claim, I asked for Appliance Express. I didn't know if they were one of the authorized vendors but it turned out that they are. American Home Shield sent the company out because they had worked on some problems that I had before I got the home warranty. The person who came out was the same technician and he's top-notch. He gets the problem solved when he comes out. So I was really happy about that. This time, there was something wrong with the computer board of my KitchenAid range. It wasn't holding its temperature when we would preheat it. The technician replaced that board and we haven't had any trouble with it since then.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. We've owned different houses for 30 years and we've always had AHS. Their reps are good and they're always there if I need to call. And I can also get to them online. Recently, I sent in a claim for my double stove which weren't heating to the proper temperature. And then, my microwave wasn't working as well. AHS got back with me the next morning and made an appointment for two days later. Their contractor then came out and told me what was wrong. They had to order the part, and because my appliances were so old, it would take a while. About five days later, they called and let me know that they were coming in. We weren't in town when they got the part though, so it took around three weeks before they got to fix everything. They were really great and were on time.

We had an appliance issue back in August and it was handled wonderfully. Motor City Appliance Service was great. That experience was handled quickly and efficiently. They fixed everything and they were very professional. Our refrigerator's control board was not working so our refrigerator was freezing food and then thawing. And then, we also had them look at our washing machine because that wasn’t working either. We paid our deductible and they fixed everything within a few days. There was still some leaking from the washing machine and they answered my questions and told me what to look for to fix that. It was a really good experience.
Then our well pump broke almost two weeks ago and right now, we're trying to get somebody to respond to us. American Home Shield sent two well people out. One didn’t deal with our type of well. The second one misdiagnosed the issue and told us we needed to connect to city water, which isn't even available in our area. So after four days without water, they finally authorized us to have an outside well person come take a look at the problem. We just had to get authorized. He had to call in with the diagnosis before we could get authorized for reimbursement. When he called in with the diagnosis, they put words in his mouth and said, “Nope. That’s not something that is covered.” At this point, we're just hanging.
We had to pay to get our well fixed because we had no water and we had to function, but we can't get authorization to call back. AHS said that the well guy said that it was in a power surge, which wasn’t the issue. The well had become disconnected from the pipe and the motor burned itself out, which should be covered based on the contract. I finally reached out to someone yesterday that was going to look into it from the call center. However, the authorization department has been extremely rude. They kept getting our calls disconnected. Two different times, my husband got to the point where he asked her supervisor, left a message, and they said they had 24 to 48 hours to get back to us. Both times however, we got no response. We had to pay $3,000 out of pocket to have our well pump fixed and pay our deductible to have two plumbers come out and not even diagnose the issue.
I raved about AHS to my friend based on the experience we had with our appliances. She was going to sign up, and then I told her last night what we were going through with our well pump and she said, “Wow. I guess I'm not gonna sign up. I don’t wanna deal with that.” To think that you're covered under a warranty and then have something go wrong and not be able to even talk to somebody and find out why your claim is denied, just get very rude, abrupt answers and then no response.

I have an indoor swimming pool so I have a heater and a pump room. I was getting ready to go to the hospital so I wanted to close up and lock everything. I opened the door to make sure the light was off and I saw water on the cement. I went over to the heater and I saw that it was leaking around. I turned off the heater, so that meant the pool was still going on twice a day for filtering but the pool was cold. I had all new pipes before I joined American Home Shield. I had it put in there because the heater has a different type of pool pipe and the person who lived there before didn’t put heat-resistant pipes and they were bending and leaking. I spent $200 just on the pipes and then the guy charged me labor.
Stanley Steven Company came over and he said that everything was done right but a lot of times when you're turning something piped, it needs to be turned one more time and from the machine. The heater coming off and on, vibrated and it came unloose and it was leaking. So, he called me out there and told me I had two leaks on the filter. It was a closed one and all the sealants were from the factory. The guy said he couldn’t do anything about it and they were going to have to get me a new filter. He took some measurements to make sure it would fit into that room and the girl back at the office was working on it. American Home Shield was very reassuring trying to find somebody to do the pool. I would have gone to a swimming pool company and would have never thought of a plumbing one. The two guys knew what they were doing so that's all that counts. Just do it and do it right the first time.

The refrigerator died and my wife initially called American Home Shield, then I followed up. The tech guy came out on a Wednesday and we’d already been without a refrigerator for a week and a half. But it didn’t take him long and I was surprised how fast he figured out the problem. He said we didn't have Freon in our refrigerator anymore and there was nothing he could do for us. AHS offered us a cash settlement and we got a refrigerator after a week and a half. It was a bad time because it was right around Labor Day and we had problems finding a refrigerator we wanted. Everybody was having their sales so we ended up finding one. It was just very lucky that we found one that met my wife’s requirements. Overall, American Home Shield was prompt in their service call, they responded appropriately when they came out and then they settled with us in a good way relatively quickly.

I've been trying to call through their number for a week now but my calls only go to an updated system, and when I get to an automated system, I can't get out. I was then given a confirmation number. Shortly later that day, I was given a phone number of the representative that would be showing up to do the inspection. It took two days for the contractor to come out. He was very professional. He gave me an inspection, told me that there were some things that fell onto my side that I was going to have to cover, and explained that. Plus, he put a very good band-aid on the AC and was able to get it working. I didn't pay him directly and I waited for AHS to state what I owed. They gave me a printout copy of what would be on them to pay and what be on me.
It took about a month to order the parts and by then, our AC was starting to fail again, so it was perfect timing. He gave me a call to schedule up an appointment for the install. AHS also followed up to make sure that I had already spoken with the contractor and set the appointment up. The contractors came in and did the install. They were very clean and professional. They did excellently. Once the work was done, American Home Shield called up to make sure I was satisfied and that everything was working. Now they have manager in Northern California and her name is Kimberly **, she will not return your call instead she will send you an email a day later giving me run around. She says in the email talk to my assistant who will also never return your call. Every time I call both of them I always get their voicemails. This is frustrating!!! In past 6 months I had multiple occasions where I ended up paying extra money to replace them.
Last week my rental property water heater broke down and we have to replace them and they ask me that I have to about half of the cost to what they paid to replace it. About an year ago I had external faucet leaking outside the home and their explanation was since it is outside the home (though connected to my home) that's what the contract says it will not cover. I am fed up with them and will not give them any more referrals and will switch my three properties to someone else with better customer service who can return your calls and be reasonable when replace an appliance.

We had a three-year-old LG dishwasher, which wasn’t that old but we had different things replaced on it before. This time, it was a usual problem where when the dishwashing people would come out and fix it, they pushed it back into where it was and the little clear plastic hosing was always getting pinched. After a while, the hosing cracked and every time we turned the dishwasher on, it leaked up underneath the floor and now, I have the most colorful linoleum kitchen floor.
We called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. But, the schedule for the contractors to come out correlated with a holiday and folks in South Texas do not work on holidays, no matter what so we had to wait till the holiday was gone. Also, if it’s a really bad weather, the contractors don’t like coming out in it because most of them don’t know how to drive good in this weather.
It took about five or six days for the techs to come out. AHS told us that if we don’t hear from the person that we’ve been assigned within so many business hours, we could give them a call. Unfortunately, we were given contractors who were using their cellphone as their business number and depending on what they were doing at the time, they might answer or they might not. We were playing a lot of phone tag back and forth so it took a while for them to get back. But everything is doing fine because AHS wrote the dishwasher off and said it wasn’t worth repairing so they replaced it. My husband and I sat down and went over the pros and cons of the dishwashers that were offered to replace our old one with. We chose one and it had been working fabulously.
Most of the repairs are good and the second company that came was great but the first one was not. Also, when contractors finally arrive, I ask them for their ID. I’ve had a lot of them leave ‘cause they didn’t have IDs. Most of them are also smart enough but I have to remind them to wipe their feet before they come into the house because depending on where they’ve been before they get to my house, if their shoes are super muddy, they don’t clean that. Nevertheless, having a home warranty is a lot better than other people who don’t when they go broke because they didn’t think to get one. If someone needs a home warranty, they should not waste time with other companies and go with American Home Shield because they’ve always been prompt.

My furnace went out on one of the coldest days of the year last year. I submitted a claim to AHS and they were wonderful. The contractors were out in no time and were super professional. They cleaned up after themselves. They explained to me everything that was happening. However, when I submitted a claim on a plumbing issue recently, it was a huge disappointment.
My bathroom sink was not draining. It was being super slow. And the water coming out of the faucet was coming out exceedingly slow. I've never had it do that. It ended up stopping that we couldn’t get any water out of it. When I submitted the claim, it said I should receive a call within 24 hours but I didn't. I submitted my claim on a Sunday, so I knew it would take even longer. So, I figured I'd wait until Tuesday. Still, had not received a call by Tuesday. I called them on Wednesday and left a message. They didn't return my call. I called them on Friday and left a message. They returned my phone call and we set up an appointment for the following week. They were no show and no call. I called and said the person who was at my house couldn't stay much longer. The rep said, "I'm sorry. The plumber had to go home for the day." I would have appreciated a phone call. And so, we had to set a second appointment.
My son was here when the contractors came. The contractors said it was just clogged on the sink. They cleaned out the little cap on the sink and the faucet and took no time. They said the faucet was not dripping so that has not been fixed yet. My son said they were there no more than 15 minutes. Told the contractor that the dishwasher was leaking, but we thought we had to do a second claim for that. But he said he'd take a look. He looked under the dishwasher, and he said he could fix it. He fixed it and it is no longer leaking. And that was a little bit positive. I'd recommend AHS to everyone.

I put a claim online with them when our AC wasn't blowing cold air. They responded quickly. They said that it was in the process and all of a sudden, I got a text saying that someone from the repair place was gonna call, and they did call within 15 minutes. I made a schedule with the contractor and two days later, the tech was able to come out. We have two air conditioners in our house - one for the bottom and another one for the top, which is the one that was out. Everything was fine with the contractor. They said that the AC was little on Freon. They filled it up with Freon, put dye in it, and then they would see how long that goes because they said it was probably leaking somewhere. So, it's just a temporary fix.
I know that eventually, there's gonna be something wrong with the AC because it is leaking. They couldn't say where it's leaking until they put this dye in it. So, we have to wait and see where it is. The tech said that if the Freon comes out and it blows hot again, then I need to call, and then they would come out. They would then look where it's leaking and they would go from there, but that would be a second claim. At this stage, I know it's probably somewhere down the line. As long as I keep AHS, then I'll be covered under the claim. What AHS has done is not probably out of the ordinary. I think that’s what any place would do, because how can they replace something without knowing where it's leaking? Other than that, I've had other repairs with AHS too and everything has worked great.

Another time, the AC system in one house kept getting broken one summer. AHS's contractors fixed it really quickly. West End Mechanical came the next day and I finally got a second opinion. The technician came last Thursday, and he did not put in the diagnostic report by Friday like he should have. I tried calling him several times Monday and AHS tried calling him Monday. I didn't get his report until Monday, so I wasn't happy that he was so slow.
Anyway, he thinks it's an airflow problem, and it is the ductwork, which is not large enough. It's got six or seven inches now, but it should be 14 inches. He said the two ton unit is too big, so it's not getting enough air flow in or out. I’ve been happy with American Home Shield. They recently sent Air Doctor out for an AC issue that we had. They had to replace a small part that they found was broken. Submitting claims with AHS has been great. I usually tell them who I want to use because I’ve had bad experiences with contractors. So now, I know who I want. I call them in advance, and I ask them if they’re available. And then, I go through American Home Shield. I tell them, “This is who I’d like to use.” A lot of times, they give me people that can’t come out for days and I know that that’s not the way it’s supposed to work, but that is what happens. With an air conditioning issue in Florida, we can’t wait two or three days, so I usually get somebody that I know, and they come out either the same day or the day after. So it’s been working.
Everybody that I’ve had in my house has been acceptable. The guy who fixed my dishwasher and dryer was awesome. I liked the time that it took to find the problem and fix it. He went above and beyond both with my dryer and my dishwasher repair. He fixes a lot of different appliances, so if he’s available, I call him first, and then I call American Home Shield. AHS should get more contractors onboard, so that if one’s not available, somebody else could come out. Also, it’s kind of a big deal once you go with somebody, and then you have to switch. When my air conditioner broke and I needed somebody, they sent me somebody, but they couldn’t get out for three days. I had to wait on the phone for an hour for them to switch it and then, again, go through the process. That was a pain. Now, I'm calling people that I know will do it, so I’m okay. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

We had a plumbing issue and Niebuhr Plumbing, the contractor that was sent by American Home Shield, was terrific. The plumbing issue was resolved however, the subcontractor for finishing the drywall has yet to show up, and that’s been four weeks. I submitted my claim online because if you want one complaint, even though they suggest you call them if there’s a question with the contractor or an issue with the contractor, you can wait anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half to speak to somebody. That issue has gone on for three years, and that’s why we will not be renewing.
American Home Shield's service is great. It’s just that when you need a decision to be made, it’s not in the automated system. You’ll first get through to somebody in a half an hour to 40 minutes, and they will put you right back in the queue, and it’ll be another half hour 40 minutes before you can talk to the next person. There are times when you just don’t have that much time because you have appointments or things to do. Still, once I get through to them, the interaction with their representatives have been very good.
I wasted a half an hour one-time, and about 40 minutes the other time to get through to somebody, and I still was not able to. So that was time wasted. You sit there listening to their elevator music on the phone and that is time you could be doing something else. It’s not productive time. Also, the follow-up is now non-existent unless you go online. And they close an issue without it being closed, and that’s not good. I’ve been with them for some time, and we’re going to a different warranty company, hoping they’re better than American Home Shield.
Good morning Mr. Miller,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have the plumbing issue repaired through your American Home Shield warranty. Also, I understand that your experience to speak with a customer service representative has been less than satisfactory due to the hold times. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

American Home Shield is very good. I always call them when setting up a claim and doing that is reasonably good and easier. With my most recent claim, a burner had an electrical wiring problem and when the contractor came in to look at it, he told me he had to order some parts. So I waited for another week then he came back and got it fixed. It's been well since then.

My furnace stopped working but I didn’t realize it until it was summertime. It was a new house so I wasn’t familiar with everything. I gave American Home Shield a call, somebody came out and he discovered something else from what I initially reported. So, he rescheduled to get it done. He had to red tag my furnace after he came on site the first time. The technician came back again and fixed that problem. When he left, I noticed that the furnace is just blowing room temperature air. It was never fixed. They fixed the problem that was never really a problem. Within 24 hours, I called AHS back and they sent somebody else out. It turned out that the thermostat was broken the whole time and it was never checked. The thermostat showed as working but when you would make changes on it, nothing would happen.
AHS charged me for two service calls because they thought it was two separate issues. I told them that I didn’t report two separate issues. The technician just found a different issue and never really fixed the initial problem. AHS took away the service charge for the second one although they did give me a tough time. It was not easy. I was on hold for 30 minutes, the rep transferred me and then, I had to explain the issue all over again. The rep said that they can pull my recordings of the call to verify it. They were trying to bait me like I was lying about something. I told them to go ahead and do that and they said they'd call me back in an hour and they never did for a week. So, I called them back and the guy immediately said that they'll credit my 125 back. It was a three-minute phone call and that experience was great.
Other than technicians not fixing the initial issue, the people were great and very professional. I just wish that they fixed the problem the first time. It took three separate times for them to come to my house. I was there with them in the garage all three times because it’s a new house and I try to learn things about the house so that I could potentially fix them myself. In the end, I was charged what I thought I would be charged and the service worked the way I thought. It just took a little longer and I had to make a phone call to be charged with the correct amount which was typical these days.

The blower on the AC unit broke off and caused my fan not to work. I heard a really loud noise and then it stopped working. I called American Home Shield and everything was pretty smooth although I had to get a hotel room for a few days. The tech was able to immediately diagnose what the situation was and made his recommendation. A few days after, I got a call from the company that came to work here and they had a guy that could come out and they were able to work a schedule. Everything has been good since the repair.

I had a problem with my pool filter and pool pump. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, it was super easy. I did it online this time. Although I usually do it on the phone, I've had a hard time getting through 'cause of the long hold time. It could take more than 20 minutes to get hold of a rep. But if you do it online, no difficulties. Although, if you have a follow-up question, it's something you have to call them back and I dread calling them cause of the hold time. But the reps at AHS give you the phone number of the contractor and so you can call if they don't call you. And you just set up an appointment and they come out. You do the consult, and they tell you what they need to fix.
So far, I liked both the companies that they sent out. I had good experiences with them. Although, when I submitted a claim for the pool pump and filter, I waited four days and the contractor didn't call me. So, I called them because it was summertime, and my pool was broken. I'm paying for the heat cost and I needed it fixed. In closing, the person AHS sent out has done an awesome job and the quality of the repair is excellent. Moreso, I appreciate the ability to select from more than one company. Previously when I first called for pool help, they didn't have very many contractors. But when I had the pool problem this year, apart from just one company that wasn't very good, they sent me two that were good. I've already recommended AHS to people.

The garage door opener function stopped working. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, it was quick and easy. I did it online and I got a call instantly, and then we took it from there. AHS sent someone to come out within two days. This company that came out looked at it and they shut it. They told us to call back for a recall if it stopped working again, which we did. They then came out again and replaced the board. I had a good experience with AHS. The contractor was good and responsive. too. I highly recommend this company.

Our clothes dryer was making such a loud noise that you wouldn't be able to stand. I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. A contractor from P & R Repairs came out the next day and he was very good. I showed him where the dryer was and he started looking at it right away and working on it. Also, I was nearby so whenever he needed to tell me something, he did. He was able to save the problem. I would recommend American Home Shield. Some people don't believe in having coverage on things but it doesn't take much to make it worth your money, depending on how old your appliances are. It's a good service for the money.

I sent a claim online to American Home Shield for my air conditioning unit. The outside condenser unit had a loud buzz to it, and the guy that came out for that was the same guy that came out for a claim I've made earlier for my condensate pump on the furnace. At first he was just gonna clean the condensate pump and I mentioned to him that it was 15 years old. I told him that it would go bad again if he would just clean it. He told me that I was right, and he replaced the capacitor for me. He did the right thing and I'm happy with that. It didn’t fix it but it's still working. The noise isn't quite as loud but I'm satisfied.

I filed a claim for the garage door over the phone and it was easy to get the claim process started. However, American Home Shield informed us the warranty did not cover the springs on the garage door and they denied paying for the repair. Then we still had to pay the people $70 which is American Home Shield’s cost for diagnosing the issue. We ended up paying for the repair also. But that didn’t matter. We had a very good experience with the technicians and American Home Shield has been terrific. We’ve been with them around 10 years and we’ve been very happy with them. They're quite good.

I've had American Home Shield for 30 years and the people that they send out are nice and respectful. They are dressed nicely plus their equipment and trucks are clean. But I had plumbing people a couple of weeks back and the quality of those people was not up to par. In fact, the service and the quality of people have gone downhill lately. The time to get the vendors to return a call to make an appointment has been terrible as well. It took about four days to get the plumbing people to make an appointment then it took them another three days to get out here. It was all simple stuff too. There was nothing exotic. The air conditioning contractor took about five days to come out as well. My air conditioner had stopped blowing cold air and very disappointedly, they came two or three times. One time, it was this then it would be that. They would be here in two minutes and they would run out rather than going through some diagnostics and checking.

My washing machine wasn't running the spin cycle and I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. It was an automated phone wherein it has an audio menu, I just answered the questions and I was able to submit a service request. I did it on a Saturday and AHS told me who the contractor was, and the contractor called after a day or two. They had to replace a part in order for the washing machine to function properly.
I've had AHS service for seven years now. One time, I've had a coil on my air conditioner that went bad. That was a $4,000 repair and I paid 66 bucks for it so that was good although it took a little while because they had to wait for the part to come in. The tech basically took the components and customized it right there. They've done a variety of things such as water heater, the washer and the dryer, and I have two accounts. I have a rental and I use them there too. So far, the quality of their work has been good and I've recommended them to people.

Our electricity wasn’t working in one side of the house. So, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. We didn’t have that issue the day before. It just started all of a sudden. The electrician from BW Electric came out, and he was able to diagnose the issue fairly quickly. We just had a loose wire in our breaker box that must have gotten knocked loose somehow at some point. He was able to tighten it up, and we’ve been good since.
I like submitting my claims online, and I typically have an immediate response from American Home Shield. However, it seems to be a hit or miss with the vendors. Sometimes I get really great vendors like that electrician who found the issue, but the original air conditioning place that AHS sent out seemed to just wanna get all the money they could out of AHS even if I didn’t need things. I felt like I was kind of having to push them to fix my actual issue, and I called in to AHS and had to escalate it. I spoke with someone in the approval department and I was informed that I could have a different contractor come out for a second opinion.
We finally got a second contractor out. My air conditioning unit’s too small. They diagnosed the issue and were gone within one visit versus the other vendor. They had come out four times, and their front office was completely rude and unprofessional, and it got to the point where I was like, “Come on, guys. I just want air conditioning.” But AHS was great about it. The lady I spoke with in the approvals department was awesome. She spoke through the whole process with me, listened to my concerns, and told me that I could have another vendor come out, which was awesome because I did not want that original vendor back out. I had been going back and forth with that vendor for about a month and a half.
American Home Shield's social media team is awesome. I originally seemed to have issues with that other vendor, and I was getting kind of mixed messaging when I called in. I had to wait online for probably 30 minutes or more to talk with someone, and I was so slammed at work. So I reached out to the AHS social media team on Facebook messenger, and they were able to pull up my information and help me out instantly.

First, I called in July to have my Refrigerator and Microwave looked at. I was given a date and company. I took the day off work since the window is 9AM-5PM. By 6 PM that day I did not have anyone call or show up to look at my refrigerator or microwave. I called the Vendor (Sears), only to find out the original ticket was only for the Refrigerator and was not in my name nor at my address. This was after being told my Parts were ordered. How can parts be ordered if no one has looked at it yet? I called AHS and they called SEARS to verify everything and found out the same thing I did. A new ticket got written and I received a call that a service person would be out for my refrigerator and a second one for the Microwave.
The one for the Microwave showed up on the day he was supposed to and told me the Magnatron was bad and a few other parts, a few days later a get a call from a second service person stating they were stopping by to look at my Microwave. I informed him that the parts were not in yet and he told me he was out to diagnose the microwave. I was at work when I received this call and had to get my 15 yr old son to let a neighbor in since an adult had to be there for them to look at my appliance. The second service person could not find anything wrong with the microwave. Since then it will work okay sometimes and other times it will make loud noises and spark. My kids refuse to use it and I refuse to pay ANOTHER $75.00 to have someone look at it.
Back to the refrigerator. The service person Showed up (another day off work) and was able to fix the water leaking from the freezer to the refrigerator. He also ordered a gasket for the fridge door. Long story short, AHS approved of the Gasket but it was on back order, once it was available it would be mailed to me and I should call Sears to make a service appt. I think nothing of it till I receive an email in early September stating I needed to return extra parts. I called and let them know I had no parts delivered, I called around with several departments in Sears (almost an hour).
Then, I was transferred to AHS, after almost 2 more hours on and off hold I was told that their department would look in-house and if they were not able to order the parts they will replace the fridge. A week few days later I followed up (another hour on hold and was hung up on) and was told I should receive a call or an email in 24 hours. (Personal life happens and I forget to follow up about the fridge.)
Fridge completely dies October 7th. I call AHS and they sent someone out the next day (a holiday, I was very HAPPY about this). The service man told me the fridge is bad because it was constantly running since the gasket (the one that was SUPPOSED to be replaced in JULY and then again in September) was never replaced. I called AHS that evening (20-25 min on hold) and was told they would make a decision within 48 hours, at this time I told them I still had an open case from July, I could barely understand the gentleman I was speaking with but it sounded like they were going to replace my fridge and someone would call by Wednesday. By this time I have lost everything in the refrigerator and Freezer since I only have one in my home. I called on Wednesday afternoon (20 min hold and then transferred to someone else and another 35 min hold) and was told they approved and then closed my case from Oct 7th.
I was quite upset to find this out, again I could barely understand the person on the phone. Upon more conversation I found out the order from July was approved and they transferred me to the Appliance department. I was on hold almost an hour before speaking with another woman and she sent me an email that I was to reply to saying that I was OK with the order. I immediately replied to the order the way that was listed in the email. (It was through Sears and had I bought the fridge myself I would have had it Friday Oct 12).
I called back on Friday Oct 12th. Complained. I wanted to speak to a supervisor and was reimbursed the second service fee I was charged then transferred to the orders department only to find out my refrigerator had not been ordered yet and they are behind on their emails. They typically take 2 to 3 days OR MORE. The nice lady on the phone ordered my Fridge for me (or said she did). I call back on Monday to make sure I will be getting my fridge since it is a Kenmore (guess what happened that morning... Sears says they are going bankrupt). I was reassured that my Fridge would be delivered but it would be an additional 10-14 BUSINESS DAYS before I receive a call for someone to deliver.
Since I have teenage kids I went out and purchased a mini fridge to get me through so I could at least have SOME basics. I find this absolutely ridiculous! To top it off, I receive a call last night, the gentleman on the phone starts reassure me that a Refrigerator will be ordered for me and starts asking me questions about my refrigerator. Finally I ask the guy if my refrigerator had been ordered or not yet? I told him that it was supposed to have been ordered on October 12th. He told me he was just helping that department get caught up and it was an email that was still in the queue. He would check and make sure it was delivered and then delete it from the system. I never heard back either way about it. I am now wondering why I have paid over 2,000 in the last 3 years for this service and have to wait more than a month to get a 600 refrigerator? I can only imagine how long a wait for a furnace or hot water heater would be.

We received our warranty as part of a home purchase. This was our first house and we appreciated it as this is not a new home, it was a well taken care of home, but not brand new. The previous owner was actually a sub-contractor primarily in trim, maintenance and roofing. He rebuilt the porches front and back, the roof was new, all appliances in the house were new including the heater and water heater and everything in the kitchen.
We love the house and it has a great location for us as well. No issues we almost did not use the warranty at all the first year until almost the end. I was actually reviewing home warranty companies for the next year when our issue happened. In the very late summer we started having AC issues right during the middle of me reviewing it. I should stay with the company we currently had or go to another. The prices on the other seemed cheaper a little etcetera. Then we started having AC issues.
Contacted AHS and they sent someone out to service the unit. I thought that was OK. It just needed a Freon refill or something. The AC technician said it was an older unit and he had to talk to his supervisor to see what the prognosis would be. After and as he went to his truck to do so I was starting to freak out because we did not have the spare money to cover a substantial AC repair. He came back and said he could not really do anything but talk to American Home Shield and get back to me.
So me and my wife are kind of about to lose it after he leaves. We live in Georgia and it is not cool especially in late summer. Twenty minutes later American Home Shield called me and I saw the caller ID. I was like, "Wow. If they called that quick it is to deny the claim." I was wrong completely. They said it would be replaced completely. I was completely blown away. We did have to deal with no AC for a week but as soon as the ordered unit arrived they were out next day and installed it along with rebuilding the heat stack on the heater because the new unit had to have a wider one.
I renewed directly thereafter so basically you can say I count a whole new 4 ton AC through AHS for $75.00 which is what it costs for the initial service call. I personally would not believe this as I read it but I can tell you it is 100 percent true. We live in NW GA 30 minutes from Atlanta and I will personally be with AHS for many years to come if not a lifetime customer because of it and it is completely true!

It is working perfectly...however AHS still has not paid him. I think this is a disgrace as he was kind enough to work with me and accept that AHS would pay him or me and I would give him the check. We usually ended up with AHS' automated line when we called. But they did well whenever we submitted claims and we had a seamless experience. Contractors got a hold of us pretty quickly. Their repairs were fine. But I did claims often because AHS would try to fix things that shouldn’t have been fixed like a microwave. I told them I would take the money and it took a lot to push them. They then gave me $350 for a microwave fix that they would have done. And even the place that came out, they fixed the microwave once but it broke again. They guy said he was going to have to come out a third time to be able to even get me a new microwave. he said I spent too much money which I agreed with.
The only thing was AHS fixed the very minimal. They had a ridiculous price too that kept going up and up. I would pay ahead of time, all at once. I would look at the whole month and it was like $600. But all of a sudden, I was over $1,000. Someone suggested HSA to me and I contacted them. It was totally different. There was a lot more online competitive pricing. I changed to HSA because of the price, but I found out that HSA was bought by AHS.

The last time I filed a claim with American Home Shield, it was for plumbing and I did it over the phone. That part was fine but the contractor that they sent me was horrible. Eventually, they sent another plumber. Plus, I had a billing issue with them. I had my checking account set up in debit which at that moment was low so, I specifically gave the rep the information for my credit card just for one time. They did a one-time payment on my credit card and they also debited my checking account.
When I found out what happened, I called them and aside from taking a month, they reimbursed me back to my credit card instead of back to my checking account. A week later, they sent me an email stating that my vendor payment was 30 days past due and that the burden of proof was on me to show that I have paid which was poor customer service. It should not be on me but on AHS and they should give me a supervisor and get it resolved. They wanted me to provide the cancelled check as proof of payment to them for the $125. It wasn’t my issue and I left it at that. I was a customer for four years and I was satisfied. But this billing issue caused me to cancel my policy with them. If I am dissatisfied with the customer service, they will not have my business especially when no one is trying to help me. Also, the vendor fee went up from $60 to $125 in a matter of two years which was very disconcerting.

Our washing machine stopped working and American Home Shield sent Richard’s Appliance out. Richard’s Appliance was awesome. They came when they said they would and they did what they said they were supposed to do. They said that they couldn’t fix the machine because they couldn’t find the part to fix it. So then I was told to purchase another one and send the receipt. I bought another washing machine, and I need to fax them my receipt so AHS can reimburse me. I'm hoping I can call them to get the number to send the receipt to without spending another five days waiting on the line for an indefinite period of time.
Initially, submitting the claim with AHS on the phone was very difficult because I could never get through. It took me five different occasions of calling and waiting on the phone anywhere from 35 minutes to 45 minutes to get through. It was a miserable experience. I got three policies with them because I have three different properties. So, I’m hoping it’s not indicative of the nightmare that I’m gonna have every time something goes wrong because I’m definitely considering changing that. Maybe they’re too big now where they have too many customers, and they can’t service their people in a reasonable amount of time. I don’t know what the deal is, but I didn’t have a washing machine for a long time and that wasn’t okay.

AHS is great. I had them years ago when I bought my first house. Years later, we switched but ended up canceling and switching back over to AHS. Their website is very user-friendly and it's amazing. You don't have to wait on hold. We filed a claim for the AC and the contractor came out within 12 hours. We live in a very small town and the fact that a local contractor was able to come out made it a lot easier. Otherwise, we would have had to wait for somebody to come out of Las Vegas, which is an hour away. And usually, it takes a lot longer.
The contractor came in and evaluated the AC. He figured out that the problem was the fan and placed a call with AHS to get approval to get it fixed. We're in Nevada and it is still warm in October. We have another AC unit on the other side of the house and we stayed on the other side until the AC got fixed. He called me back once he had the approval and said that he was coming back over to fix it. He was somebody that I personally know. I was okay with him and said to just go to the house and fix it. I didn't even have to be there. I've recommended AHS to my sister-in-law. She has a different home warranty company, which has been a nightmare for her. She's going to be switching over once she gets her repair taken care of.

Our air conditioning went out inexplicably on the last week of summer. Earlier in the year and maybe last year, we had a contractor out to fix the same air conditioning unit so we were concerned about it. We called American Home Shield and a gentleman came over. He said he knew what the issue was and he wanted to replace my condenser fan. It made everything cooler and he left. Later that evening, the ambient temperature outside was in the mid-80s and upstairs it was 94˚. It was 89˚ up there three hours ago so I asked why it wasn't cooling.
I called AHS back and then another guy came out and looked at the air handler in the second level of the house. He said I had another problem and it looked like something had shorted out. He added that since it was an older air conditioning unit, it was 100% understandable. Anytime the air conditioner would kick on, it would also kick on the furnace so it was heating the cool air and shoving it into the house. Even though the air conditioner seemed to be running fine, it wasn’t doing anything. He told me that they were gonna order a part for me and it would be a couple of days but he was gonna unhook my furnace from the thermostat so then it won’t be heating. Two days later, the same guy that was here the first time came back. He installed it and he left. Again, it was 89˚ upstairs. It was not cooling the home.
I called Budget, the contractor, back again and told them that they have been out here three different times and the air conditioning is still not fixed. They said they will send another guy and this was 7 o’clock at night. That evening, a third guy came into the house and said he will just troubleshoot the air conditioning. He also added that something shorted out in the thermostat. He took me up there and showed me exactly what it was doing, why it was shorting out, what I could do to relieve it, the piece that actually shorted out and what I could do about it. It turned out, we have one of those digital Nest thermometers. He asked how long I have had that and I said two years. He told me to call Nest as it should be under warranty. I called Nest and they sent me the new piece. I installed it myself, turned the thermostat back on and everything worked wonderfully.
It took four trips for Budget to properly diagnose what was wrong with my cooling. Had the first guy done his due diligence in troubleshooting, he would know that it was a warranty issue with Nest and that it had nothing to do with American Home Shield who wouldn’t have had all these invoices going back and forth for pieces that probably were not needed. It was a rough last week of summer and AHS was wonderful about it. I have no issues with their product but their subcontractors could be better. I would recommend American Home Shield as I've always had. There has only been a couple of times in my home-owning life that I haven’t had American Home Shield and although there had been years when I haven't used it at all even though I've been paying 700 bucks a month, that's how the model works. In the 20 years of homeownership, I'm in the black.

With American Home Shield, you don't have to shop for your own technicians. They provide someone for you and they have always found someone to help on the issues. They also always get resolved so I'm happy with the company. One time, the washing machine was not working. It was plugged by some plasticky stuff in the back and nobody could figure out what the heck it was. I filed the claim with American Home Shield online and I paid my part online as well. After that, Conner's Appliance had to come out twice because they had to replace a part in the washer but everything seems to be working fine now.

We have a well and it stopped. We had no water whatsoever, so I was freaking out thinking that the well went dry. We just moved in the house a little over a year ago, and I've never had a well before so it was the worst nightmare. But AHS sent a contractor and they evaluated it. They took time to do the right thing and checked the well itself, and then the house. Fortunately, it was just the pressure control. It could've been thousands and thousands of dollars. I'm so glad that they were able to figure it out. They knew what they were doing and they were really professional. I was also very happy American Home Shield covered it. I would definitely use them again if I had any issues. When I needed them they've come through.

American Home Shield sent Sears to repair the microwave a day or two from when I filed a claim. The little latch that tells when the microwave door is closed was popped-off or dislodged on the inside. The contractor put it back in the right spot so the issue was fixed and it went great. The microwave works fine now and it makes it a lot easier for us to cook food. We've got a toddler who never eats anything on time so when he does eat, he has the microwave. That was a good experience with American Home Shield and their website is also user-friendly.

I've used AHS twice in the last six months, and the first time they were fine. Both times, I submitted the claim online and the response time was not too long at all. The second time, I was upset 'cause Sears had canceled my appointment and didn't tell me. They went ahead and rescheduled it for a Tuesday, which they did this without even asking, and I wasn't happy about that. So, to compensate me, they sent a $30 gift card, but it was more of a hassle than anything. But overall, besides switching the dates on me, everything was good. I'm happy with everything.

This time, when the doorbell didn’t work as well as two plugs, AHS provided the number of the provider and I sent an email back but I never heard from anybody. AHS charged my credit card for $85 but I should have hired an electrician. I need to sit down and call again and get some action here because this has been two weeks. It did not work out so well and I wish I had this resolved. People should go with somebody else.

Whenever we submit claims to American Home Shield, we like doing it on the phone better as we could not get through online. When we filed a claim for the air conditioning that was not working, we got a contractor out three days later. They looked at it and figured out that we needed a part which they ordered. It took about five days for the part to come in and they fixed it. But then, when they turned the air conditioner on, it was still not working. So, they needed another part ordered and when it came in, it was not the correct part. They had to reorder and when the right part came in, they repaired it. It took about two weeks with all that and it was miserable. Still, everything is good right now and the repair sufficed. I've had a good experience with AHS they did a good job. Having a warranty on a property is very valuable and it saves a lot of money in repairs.

My AC will not turn on and even if it's on, it emits warm air. I submitted a claim over the phone with AHS and the people who answered the phone were great. Getting the process started was very fast and it took about a week for them to get somebody out here. Then the first contractor they sent out was very good. He found out what the problem was, told me that the AC needs a part replaced, and that it would be a month for the part to come. So, he submitted a report to AHS and I waited for a month.
Then he told me that American Home Shield wanted a second opinion, so I called American Home Shield. After I waited for two weeks, they sent out the second opinion people. They gave the same findings but they didn't tell me what I should expect. Also, they never called me back, so I called them two weeks later. They said that they had to wait for American Home Shield to call them back to see if the replacement of the part would be approved. So, I waited again and when I called them for an update, they said that it was approved and that they would place the order. I waited for another three weeks and since there was still no call from the contractor, I called American Home. I asked them what happened and they told me that the part was out of stock.
A few days ago, I called American Home again and they said that they would check with the repair person. Then the contractor called me back and said that they got the part and they're coming, but it will be on November 14th. Now my claim was submitted early July and it's so hot in Hawaii that I got sick a couple of times because of no aircon.
Good morning Emily,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service and follow up errors. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the air conditioner repairs that are set to be completed.

It was an electrical issue. So I contacted AHS again and then they had Sunbelt Electric come out. The guy from there was really, really good. He diagnosed the problem and it was in fact, an electrical problem so they got me all set up. Although it took a week for them to finish, everything was fine. The contractors were great.
I certainly apologize for the delay Kelly. Thankfully, we were ultimately able to get your pool issue resolved. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

On the other hand, when we had some people come back and look at the garbage disposal, they didn’t do anything. They said they weren’t allowed to accept payment anyways and that it would go through the business. That aside, everything has been good. The tech also noticed an issue with my water heater but he said he wasn't a plumber and I should have somebody look at it. I called AHS and told them I needed a plumber. They sent one from the same company who fixed my air conditioner. The plumber looked at the water heater but said he couldn't repair it because he didn't have the license to do it in a condo building. He also told me that before he could authorize a new water heater, the manager had to look at it. So he came twice before he told me he couldn't fix it.
So I called AHS again and told them what happened. I wanted to make sure they didn't charge me a service fee for a company coming in who couldn't do a repair. Then May's plumbing came and they were very good. I have gotten a new water heater and it's been working very well since. The water heater is what I use for heat, it keeps my condo warm and makes the water warm, too so it's very important. So, I'm happy. I've had very good experiences with AHS and I often recommended them to people in the building and those I work with.

I like American Home Shield. They're good and when my contract runs out again, I will probably sign them up for another year. I usually call them on the phone for claims because sometimes, I need to explain the particulars around my problem and a website log doesn't allow you to do that. When our air conditioning unit broke, it was middle of the summer and we were sweating like pigs. The contractor came out to fix it in a day. When he arrived, I told him to call me because my bell wasn’t working. He came in and he was very pleasant. He looked at me and told me what was wrong. That gentleman was out in less than 15 minutes. That’s what I want. I don’t like anybody just sitting up in my house. When he came back, it was even better. After the repair, the freezer has been working excellently.
When I called American Home Shield to get my dryer fixed, I wanted Honesty to come back to my house but they told me that the tech who came before does not service dryers. I have been hearing a squeaking noise from my refrigerator. Then, I got up one morning and it was gone. The person sent out by AHS replaced the thermostat, but after he got it back up, I heard the squeak again and I mentioned it to him. He said it might be the belt and then he left. The squeaking noise got worse to where it was lasting like five minutes. So I called back and the tech came out and fixed the squeaking.
Since he repaired the squeaking the second time, whatever he did then, the refrigerator’s been great. The contractor was pleasant. He was down to business, and came in and got it done, and left. I am pleased with my experience with AHS and when I mentioned it to a friend, she said that it may have cost me $50 to get my refrigerator fixed. I paid $200 because the tech came out twice. So I tell people who ask me about AHS that it is an individual decision that has to do with whether they can take the risk and come up with a bunch of money if something bad happens or if they have to pay a little bit more gradually along the way.

To submit a claim with American Home Shield, I just go online and log in then I click what I need to have looked at and they set it up by having somebody call me. About 24 to 48 hours later, a contractor would contact me. The most recent claim I had was the microwave one. There was an issue with the door. The frame on the door had broken. The company texted me a time that they would be at the house but I wasn’t gonna be there at all and they didn’t try to coordinate a time. I tried to call and cancel but they never picked up their phone. Then I never heard from them again after that and I had somebody else do the work. My wife was home at that time and she said nobody came, and yet I got billed $75 for that, which wasn’t cool. American Home Shield said that they called the company and that somebody had come but I wasn’t home. They said that was considered a call-out.
The only other thing that concerns me sometimes is that I don’t have a pick on the contractor. I would look up reviews on the one they're sending and they would have 100 1-star reviews. A lot of people said that their refrigerator was worse after the contractor came and that the company was terrible. I just wish we had a choice. Most of the contractors have been good though and overall, I've saved a decent amount of money from having the warranty.

Every now and then, I was noticing a little bit of water in the bottom of our washing machine. But if I hit it on spin, it would drain. So I googled that and it said that there might be a valve that was leaking because it occurs when it's not even running. I submitted the claim through the American Home Shield website, which is very simple to use. It's just giving me a place to put the model number and the serial number, as well as to describe the problem. I put all of that in there. And when you put something in on there, it's actually putting to the mind that we're passing along to the company. But the guy who came out had no idea what brand or serial number. That was all he was there for. He took a picture of the serial number and told me that once they got the part, they would get back to me. They could've done that without the call. But that's not really the website. It's more the website getting the information to the company.
On the other hand, the contractor from AAA All Brands Appliance did come out very quickly the first time. He was also back on the day that he had set. It was two days later that he was back with the part. It made me happy to get it fixed. I've only had the warranty for about two months and I've already used it twice. I chose American Home Shield over a recommendation, and 9 out of 10 of my friends and I would give the same recommendation.

I am a single lady with no kids and I don't even wash comforters or anything that could be deemed as "overloading"! There were a couple of electrical outlets in the kitchen that suddenly were not working and in order to get them fixed, I had one technician come out through AHS. We were gonna have to rip the wall out but I said there has gotta be a better way. It was weird because he first said he could just drop a line down from the attic, just bypass it, put a new line down and make it real simple. But when I called AHS, the woman on the phone looked through the report and said it changed and they couldn’t do it that way. But she was very professional and afterwards, I had a second opinion and AHS sent a guy from a different electrical company.
The second contractor was very professional and very knowledgeable. He tried to figure what possibly could be the problem. There were wires some place that wasn’t right, but he was able to find it. He said maybe he had more experience than the first guy. He has a little bit better idea of maybe where to look for possible problems before ripping out any walls. He was here for an hour and took care of the whole set without ripping any walls, and that was great.
I’m entitled to a second opinion at their cost, and I didn’t have to pay more for it. It was taken cared of and it was great. I also had another problem with a heat duct that was dislodged from the heater. The guy AHS sent came out and he had to go under the house. It was actually broken in two places, and it was an easy fix. It cost me $75, but if it were on my own and I had to call somebody, nobody's gonna go under the house like that for less than $500. For somebody who’s not handy around the house, AHS is a really good thing. I would strongly recommend it. It’s about $60 a month that I pay to American Home Shield, which is quite a bit, but it’s paid for itself in my case.

When I submit my claims over the phone to American Home Shield, which I prefer, the reps would take the request and send somebody out. They were friendly, nice and thanked me for having been with them for so long. It shows that I’ve only been with AHS for 20 years but I was with them all the years that I’ve been financing my house too so it was longer than that. I haven't been one to make claims because I haven't had issues but the house and the appliances were getting old, so this was the year that it started.
I was very pleased with everybody that American Home Shield sent out. The most recent one was for the electrical and the electrician did an excellent job. Before that, it was the exhaust fan in the kitchen and then, the exhaust fan in the bathroom and the fan in the living room needed to be tightened up. It was working but the light was dangling. They came out and told me my dishwasher wasn't working and it wasn't, so I had to get one. They were the ones who installed it. They also changed my refrigerator and got a part for it. Everything the contractor has done has been good. They fixed everything that they were supposed to and so, everything is working fine now. They were always courteous, on time, clean and very respectful. I would recommend AHS. In fact, I'm buying a year contract for the man who is buying my house.

The only problem that I have with American Home Shield is the people that they got. I had no heat at all and had to have my heat pump fixed. It was a constant back and forth between AHS and the company because neither one of them wanted to fix my heat pump because my heat pump was an old one. And American Home Shield didn't want to put a new one in because it's old. They wanted to try to fix it first, which I understood but it was just back and forth. I let someone from Better Heating & Cooling in Appalachia, Virginia go under my house. But they left the crawl space open and it caused every pipe under my house to burst and the inside, as well.
The very first time I turned my air conditioner on when it got hot, it didn't work, indoor unit or outdoor unit. I called American Home Shield and told them I didn't have any air. They said they would send Better Heating & Cooling back down here since they were the ones that they had had in here before. Within a day, I got a phone call from American Home Shield and they said the company was too busy to come and work on my units. So they were gonna send a different company, which was Custom Heating & Cooling.
The best thing about it was when I was first contacted by Better Heating & Cooling, it took them three or four days to call me, set up an appointment for them to come and just look at my heat pump, and tell me what was wrong with it in the beginning. But it wasn't even an hour later when Custom Heating & Cooling called me and asked when would be a good time for them to come out and look at my heat pump, to make sure they could get me some air going. Then, when the guy came out, he said that it was a wonder my house had not caught on fire yet with the way the first company fixed my unit.
They finally fixed it and they ended up having to get Custom Heating & Air to come in there who was awesome and great. If they said they were gonna be here on such and such day at such and such time, I could set my watch by it. They had to come out three times to get my unit fixed. They had to put in new wiring on the inside unit and on the outside unit, they had a motor installed. But they ended up having to come back one time because they didn't have a fan and they had to order it. It took three weeks for them to get the fan in because it was a special custom fan but as soon as they got the fan in, they called me and they were over here first thing in the morning to put it in.
Then, I got the pipes done for $100 and it was supposedly for my co-pay. I called AHS and told them I shouldn't owe a co-pay because it had not been six months yet. But they said that according to their record, it had been over six months. I said they did not finish working on my heat pump until January. So my contract with them, as far as them handing my keys to me, should start on that day in January. Not the day that they contracted the contractor to. Also, I had to redo all the indoor plumbing and the new shower, all new shower heads, new kitchen faucets, and all new bathroom faucets and I couldn't get into my house until the first of January. That was me paying out of pocket because I forgot that I had American Home Shield because I had such a bad experience with the guys that worked on my heat pumps. It was a big mess.

I had an air-conditioning repair and the gentleman who came was excellent. I really liked him. He put some Freon in my units, which AHS only covered $10 of the cost and I paid most of it. Then shortly after he came, I had the problem all over again. So I called up AHS and since I didn't wanna pay a co-pay again, I told them that it wasn't an effective repair so I didn't wanna have to pay for another charge. So they arranged for the gentleman to come right back over again with no charge, and I appreciated that.
So far, everything's been going well with AHS. Most of the time, I call in when I have a claim and the reps I talked to have been great. But the time it takes to get a contractor out depends on the claim. On one instance, it took a week before a contractor came out. And on another instance, the tech was out the next day. But when the contractors came out, they explained the diagnosis, then somebody would go through everything, make the repairs, and explain it to me. So, we had a pretty in-depth dialogue. Overall, it's a valuable asset to have to protect your systems with a home warranty and I would recommend AHS.

All Set Appliances Services came out to work on our water and ice dispensers, as they were not dispensing water and ice through the door. The tech was out in a couple of days after I filed the claim online with American Home Shield and then he looked at the issue, took some notes, figured all the parts he needed and left - he was here for about 15 minutes. And then he came back and fixed the issue in an hour, tops. He didn’t get it right the first time though, so they had to come back out a second time. I had to fight a little bit to make sure to say that this was from the original problem they did not fix because they wanted me to do a separate claim. Other than that, everything went fine. I only had to use my American Home Shield warranty once, and so far, the experience has been good. They have a very user-friendly website and doing the claim was straightforward. American Home Shield puts on the website that they are open 24/7, but when you call them for an issue on weekend, nobody answers the phone. It seems like they should have put out there that they open Monday through Friday during business hours. I remember I called one time on a late Friday night and nobody answered until that Monday. Other than that, AHS is great. The water heater was broken so I made a quick call to them. They responded within 24 hours and scheduled an appointment. A tech from C&P Plumbing came and saw what the issue was. He was great, polite, and very professional and he answered all my questions. They said the water heater had to be replaced. I had to pay my deductible and they replaced the water heater.

They sent the tech a day later and he figured everything out and showed us what to do. He figured out where the appropriate switches were for the lights. They were hidden under a countertop and there was really no problem. We just didn't know where all the switches were that controlled the electrical lights and one of the power outlets. The other claim we had prior that was for fixing the ice maker and refrigerator. The tech had it fixed and the ice maker has been fine ever since. We've been very satisfied with the service. I usually call in to American Home Shield to submit a claim and over the last four years, about one or two claims a year, I've been on hold for at least six hours. The previous time I submitted a claim, their contractor fixed the AC back on the hottest day of the summer. And then when it came time to utilize the furnace, there were a few things that weren't attached properly from the AC. So, the technician acknowledged that he might put on a wire, a couple of things. He said that they wouldn't have noticed just checking the AC and not checking the furnace. And he fixed it right up. This last time, somebody answered the phone quickly and saw that we had had somebody recently out for the AC. I called and got in touch with the worker again. However, it took two weeks for that person to have an opening. It was the furnace part of the AC central air. We were in the first cold snap and didn't have heat for two weeks.
To my knowledge, we did not have to pay this time because it was a completion or a rework within 60 days. However, they could get better people considering they had to come back and fix their own mess up. Usually, the contractors that AHS work with are not people we'd like to have come back out. 100% of the time they don't do a very good job. We've contracted out because they couldn't find somebody and we told them, "We're not taking that person or that person back." But after another three or four hours of being on hold, they would generally cover it. I do recommend American Home Shield with the warning of "Be prepared to wait on line or between on hold." AHS costs a little more but the coverage is better.

We called AHS when we submitted our claim, and we didn't have any difficulty. We also have the online app now in our cellphones, but before we got the online app, we were giving them a call. The garage door wasn’t going up and down and the motor in it was bad. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online, but there was no response, so I called it in. However, there was still no response. My account has messed up since we got AHS. I bought a warranty when we bought the house and the sellers also previously bought a warranty, so AHS was double-paid. We got the more expensive warranty, so if anything goes wrong in the house, it will be covered. I paid for one service fee, but they billed me for two. I owe the service fee, but I'm not gonna pay the other account until they get everything straight. I eventually got this to a manager and she was wonderful and awesome. She was excellent, but I had to go through all the many reps weeks and weeks at a time, so my garage was out of service for about a month.
The garbage disposal also wouldn’t work and there was a bad odor in the house. We were in the house for about two months with that odor and we were not getting anybody out to repair because AHS was pulling up the sellers’ warranty and kept saying that I wasn’t covered. My warranty covers electric and the plumbing, but AHS was saying I just had the basic and that none of those were covered, so I couldn’t get through anybody, but I kept telling them no. I called Stewart Title Company and they said that I was correct. I ended up having to get my contract. When Stewart Title called the AHS area manager, she finally got it straight, but it still took them a while. They kept the sellers’ contract and converted me over to the sellers’ contract, but they still gave me all of my benefits. It was a big old mess.
The technicians who did the garage and the garage disposal were wonderful. They were in and out in five minutes top. They were excellent, but AHS customer service was so rude and they weren't very professional at all. The customer reps need more training because even when I had to call back to check on the process, they still had no idea. They were saying, "You don’t have this and that.” Even after the management had corrected it, it was still big because I ended up having to call back a month later because my air conditioner was out. That was a headache. We didn’t have air conditioner for about four days and the temperature in our house was around 98 degrees. And once again, the manager got me out of it. She reimbursed me for the fans and stuff that I had purchased. But once the people came out, the service was wonderful and the manager that the area manager turned me over to was awesome.

It was two and a half pounds of refrigerant and AHS would only cover $10 for each pound and that was almost $250 in charges. We purchased a home in Santa Cruz CA, bought a home warranty through American Home Shield thinking we would be protected if something goes wrong in the next year. We bought the warranty with the addition of roof, well and septic so we paid a lot for this protection plan. First the roof warranty is via another company who comes and inspects the roof, writes a report and gives you a list of repairs to do, on a fairly new roof mind you. Gave us a quote of repairs to be done of $2400 and if we didn’t go forward and fix it the roof warranty which we paid upfront to American Home Shield would be void.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, they charge the flat $100 fee just to send somebody out. We haven't had anything come back to us in terms of other expenses other than the monthly premiums and the flat service fee. So far, we've had them come out and do work on the air conditioner and recently, the plumbing issue. That's two separate things and there are no paper claims. You call in and they send somebody out. They automatically debit the same account that the monthly premium has come out of and it's just a phone call or going online to place the service call. For the plumbing issue, it turned out to be a clog. But it was leaking out up under the carpeted floor on the other side of the wall. I was afraid it was a broken pipe or something more serious, but the guy sent out by AHS just plunged it and broke the clog loose.
For the air conditioning issue we had, the outfit that they sent to us to do the air conditioner first time, refused to take credit card or check and would only take cash money. That sounded suspicious and we didn’t have it. So, it took us about a month to put that kind of money aside to do it. Worse, we had to go without air conditioning in the heat and we had elderly people in the house. We even begged AHS to give us a different outfit, one that takes credit card. They said no. They explained that once they have assigned it to one and they’ve come out to evaluate the problem, that’s who has to do it, and they can't force them to take the cash.
So they didn't work with us on that. And my in-laws who live with me and who are elderly with compromised health problems really were challenged by that. We went and bought a window unit ‘cause that was able to do with a credit card and tried to keep at least their space downstairs comfortable enough until we could get the money for the refrigerant. Then the guys came out and put the refrigerant in. They didn't stay to make sure the house cooled down. They stuck it in and left, and then, didn’t do any follow-ups to call and see how we made out.
Two hours later, we were still hot as ever. And again, I had to fight with AHS to send a different outfit out. I don’t trust those guys. I don’t know what they did. I have no way to verify that they even put the refrigerant in. And all I knew was we didn’t have a cool house yet. It took some doing and some fighting, and I'm talking about over a course of another month before we finally got for them to send somebody else out.
The second outfit they sent out was phenomenal, very professional, came right out, and told us the problem was the first outfit put in too much refrigerant and then it froze my system up. Plus, the first outfit hadn’t bothered to hose out the compressor unit outside and the intake from grass clippings. So this guy hosed that out and then did whatever he did with the refrigerant. He told us not to run the air conditioner very high at first. They gave the refrigerant some of the time to burn off and then, we ran it the rest of early spring and by the end of summer, we stopped using it with our first frost. The air conditioner ran fine all summer though and the guy who did it called us the next day to make sure everything was still running as it should be and that we were comfortable.
In general, AHS didn't give an avenue to lodge a complaint, and that was based on my problem with trying to deal with the first AC guy. When I asked to talk to somebody in the complaints department, they said they have no complaints department. I even asked for a call back from the supervisor since I had an escalation issue but they said no. It seems they only deal with the vendors and if the vendor has a problem with the consumer and refuses to go out, then they'll send a second guy out. And that bothered me as I told them there was a health issue with elderly, and they didn’t seem at all concerned. Also, I did some research when we started having problems and compared them to the other outfits that are out. It was all the same kind of stuff across the board. So the name of the game is avoid paying the claims if you can until they stay in the black.

I’ve had American Home Shield a couple of times and I’ve only had good service. They were very efficient. I filed my most recent claim with them for an air conditioning problem over the phone and it went fine. They set up an appointment for somebody to come out, take a look at it, and tell me what they wanted to do. Then I had to make a decision as to what I wanted to do, I opted to have my own contractor do the work and they sent me a check for the amount that their cost was.

The spring on the garage door snapped so I couldn't get it to go up and down. I couldn't open or close it. I couldn't figure out the online claim submission so I called and I had great interactions with the customer service rep. The contractor Shaver's Garage Door came and the guy was quick, clever, neat, and real polite. The garage door is now fabulous. American Home Shield has always been good to us even when we lived in California and having them worked well for us. We had them send someone out for the swamp cooler and it was repaired. The company that came out did a good job as well.

I called American Home Shield for the garbage disposal. Also, the button that switches from the shower to the faucet wouldn’t engage. I couldn’t take it off of shower and just use the tub faucet, so I needed to call that in as well. I did my claims online which was efficient to do. The hardest thing was remembering my password so I could log in. The site was easy to navigate if I remembered the password. The contractor got in touch with me within 24 hours and they were very efficient. They gave me a range and they were here when they said they would. AHS is handy. If anything happens, it's only a $100. I can just put the claim in, and it would be fine. I like AHS and would recommend them.

We had a very positive experience with American Home Shield. I had moved into the home and within a week, there was water puddling by the furnace. We didn’t know if it was the water heater or the air conditioner. So I called American Home Shield and it was very prompt and easy. At first, a plumber came out and he was very helpful. He showed me where the pilot light would’ve been out if the problem was the water heater but the light wasn’t out. So he moved on and pointed out where he thought the problem was. But he also told me not to trust him since he wasn't an HVAC person, and that he was gonna refer me to one. They also did the transfer themselves so it was very easy in terms of the claim. The problem was the air conditioning unit and it was taken of properly. We haven’t had a leak since the serviceman came out.

However, when I first ordered the refrigerator, I was given a date and it didn’t show up until seven days after. It took longer than promised to me and they should have given me a window instead of an exact date. Nevertheless, I got a new Whirlpool with no money out of my pocket.

The AC stopped working so I made my account, clicked the link in the email, and submitted my claim with AHS. Then the AC's fan wouldn’t stop blowing. So I called it in with the service tech and they told me to just submit a problem still persist claim then they would come back out. I did that and they came out again. The tech was super nice and good. He saw what needed to be done, did it, and left. He was also respectful, work-oriented, and didn’t waste any time. Since the repair, the AC has been going well. Occasionally, I feel like the fan still kicks on and stays on forever. But it will run for a day then turn off. So I don’t know if it’s because I have the setting on the thermostat in a weird spot or I have it on the wrong setting, or there’s still an issue. Other than that, AHS has been pretty great and it's a lot cheaper having the insurance than if I didn’t have it.

The AC has been worked on previously. There may have been more than one issue with the unit and multiple inquiries, but it was Clifton Heating that identified that the component was not doing what it was supposed to do and they were the ones who replaced it through American Home Shield. I understood that contractually, when they replaced the part, that was my responsibility, the compressor or the component that they replaced was supposed to last a long time. But when they came back, they had to replace it again and that I had to pay for the Freon again. They said American Home Shield only covers up to a certain amount and because the issue was more than 60 or 90 days, I needed to pay for the additional cost of Freon beyond the minimum allowance and was $800, which was a substantial amount of money.
I spoke to many people at American Home Shield and I was very disappointed because no one, not even the installer or the technician, could tell me that the component that was replaced was supposed to fail in less than a year. I didn’t mind paying for it once but I did mind paying for it twice because I had the same complaint. They did the repair, and eight months later, whatever they installed was not functioning. Then they gave the reason to American Home Shield that the component needed to be replaced. But nobody was willing to say that it was a manufacturer's defect and I had no idea either. And because it was outside that window where the Freon would be covered as problematic, they didn’t cover it and I didn’t like that. That was really petty.
The technician and American Home Shield, as the service provider, should negotiate with the manufacturer about their defective parts on behalf of the customer. I don’t have the technical expertise, but it seemed like no matter what the outcome would be, I was gonna get screwed. Also, everybody at AHS customer service had a script and they pulled it up on the screen when I talked to them. That was a terrible experience, not because they were bad people but because they were limited in scope no matter who I spoke to with regard to making what would appear to be a logical decision because nobody wants to get fired for making the wrong one.
I had a subsequent issue where I also dealt with the customer service at AHS and it had to do with my washing machine. The contractor came back and decided that they had to replace the unit. I looked at the items that were being offered and I said I would like to upgrade that. They gave me permission to do that but I had to pay the $100 price difference, which I was very willing to pay. However, they wanted me to pay $500 more to get the upgrade when the whole unit only was $700. It made no sense. They said it was because they had a bulk contractual discount. I called AHS and got a customer service person on the phone who was very helpful. He said they couldn’t give me the one I wanted, but the one that was comparable was also $100 more. They gave me that and there was no additional charge, so the problem was resolved amicably. But to get to that was like root canal at the dentist's office.
So when you deal with AHS customer service, it’s not that they don’t wanna help you. It’s just that they may not be empowered to do what’s logical and therefore, they’re being guided by the script that they’re reading on the screen or the contract. I’ve had this happen numerous times with them to the point where I’m looking at other home programs. I’m always comparing but I don’t know if other companies would be any better and that’s the problem. If someone else reached out to me for comparable pricing and made me feel more comfortable with these issues, I would switch. I don’t consider American Home Shield outstanding and they won’t gain my loyalty for the way they've handled customer service. It was a painful process overall.

They did a good job and I was happy with them. However, they were very expensive. We were talking to my home insurance adjuster and she said that compared to many other claims similar to mine, Blue Star charges much more than most other companies. My home insurance adjuster also said that they always have to try to work things with Blue Star and bring the price down. So, we were kinda thrown into a situation that we didn't have a lot of information about the companies ahead of time and in the end, we got overcharged and there was nothing we could do about it.
Additionally, Blue Star recommended a water medication company and they were terrible, so we were not happy with that. We've been back and forth with them a lot too. They also have a contractor for pool that has such a bad review on Yelp. The contractor called me and told me to give them a good review. I said that they haven't even been here, but she kept arguing that they have been. I said that I was not giving them any good review. She started yelling and cursing at me. I then got a bill for $75, a fee that I have to pay.
The people that AHS deals with are very incompetent. AHS didn't care when I told them about it. I had a text message that they finally admitted that they had mistaken my address with someone else. However, AHS wants to still charge me $75 for the service that was never done. That is in dispute right now, although I haven't heard back from them. AHS took the side of the contractor. I told AHS I would take them to Small-Claims court and I would never pay the contractor the $75 because they haven't even been to my home. AHS sent a text message and said sorry. I went on Yelp and I saw that that contractor had so many bad reviews from people and people were saying that the lady yelled at them.
They also brought an electrician to fix the fan, but he could not fix it. My fan is an $800 fan, but they wanna replace it with a $60 fan. They said that the fan had five blades and they'd just replace blade by blade. They don't care what brand or what kind of fan it is. They just gave me $100 to replace the whole thing. AHS also keeps increasing my monthly fee, which was $60 and now it's $75. I'd tell someone to stay away from this company.

This is my second time with American Home Shield. When I originally bought this home, the owners supplied the AHS warranty. Although I was with Home Warranty of America in my previous house, I gave AHS an opportunity but they failed miserably so I left them. I went back to Home Warranty and stuck with them, but their service has become crap as well, so I gave AHS another chance.
We had some issues with our clothes washer recently. It was making a strange, grinding noise during the wash cycle. So, we called AHS to put in a claim and they sent out a contractor. The technician showed up and diagnosed the problem. The guy had a good disposition and explained to me what was wrong. There was a problem that I didn’t cover when I filed the claim with AHS and he added that to the claim. He even took the time out to call and tell me to call him if I haven’t heard anything from AHS and he would give them a call. In addition, he did another follow-up to make sure that I got taken care of. That was above and beyond, so the contractor was definitely a good one.
The contractor followed up and said that they’ve told AHS that I needed three parts, but two of these were no longer being produced, so AHS would contact me about giving me a replacement washer. The technician was great and dealing with the contractor was a pleasant experience. They couldn’t fix the washing machine, so they had to buy another one and that was fine. From the time the contractor put in their recommendation for a replacement and I agreed to it, another washer was delivered in less than a week.
It was in the window, though, going from the technician to closing out the claim where the problem occurred. The fault was with AHS and their call center was horrible. I gave AHS three weeks to contact me, but they never did, so I contacted them and called them twice. That was discouraging because when I called in, I was on hold for an hour and that's definitely a long amount of time to be on hold waiting. They transferred me to the product replacement team, then the call was dropped on their part, so I had to restart that cycle again and it took another hour.
They gave me the option to have a callback, which I did. When the young lady called me back, she said that they were just waiting for somebody in another department to notate in my file and if that didn’t happen, they would be contacting me in a couple of days. So, I waited another couple of days, then I repeated the process till I finally got somebody. They apologized and said that they were trying to work on their system, but that’s ridiculous. AHS is a good company and their rates are decent and in line with the industry’s rates. Also, the service was excellent. But you've gotta be prepared to wait to speak to someone to resolve the claim.

So, I ended up having to cover that myself. The customer service team was polite, but I'm not happy with the actual service. I was told that the saltwater filter was covered and then it took them over a week to to tell that it wasn’t. So, instead of getting my stuff fixed when I needed it to, it sat and my pool turned green, and I ended up having to buy a bunch of stuff to get it clear again. I spent almost $1,000 on that. Had I known that day, I would've just gotten it fixed. But I was still waiting and in one of the calls, I was transferred to different people and still didn’t get anywhere. I went through 10 different people when I finally got somebody that actually called me back. It was totally unreasonable.
The technician was great. He knew what the problem was right away. He said that AHS doesn't normally cover the saltwater filter. He also said that AHS wouldn’t cover saltwater for their existing customers. Only new customers would get that. At the time we got the policy, we had a saltwater pool and I told them that. From my point of view, if they upped their coverage and changed it, they should've added me on or at least called me and told me that. Apparently, I can't even do that at this point.
Same thing happened with my air conditioning system. I've had people come out to try and fix it six or seven times. They said, “Well, it's broken, but then you have to pay this and pay this.” AHS supposed to cover it and replace it if it's broken, but I ended up paying $5,000 for one system and $1,200 for the other one because they just wanna barely fix it. So far, my AC has been working way better since we replaced it. AHS was supposed to fix home systems but they covered hardly anything on the air conditioning. Nevertheless, I've had a couple of things that they have fixed. So, I'm not horribly dissatisfied with AHS, but I'm not super satisfied either.

We had a clogged pipe in the house and it was handled very well by American Home Shield. I made a claim online and the website navigation was simple. The people here in Eureka responded within half an hour too, and the technicians were excellent. They snaked the pipe for us and it took about 20 minutes for them to push through whatever the clog was. Then they offered to do a camera down there to see what it was or if there was still a clog. But AHS said it would have to clog again within 45 days for them to do the camera, and it hasn’t. AHS has been fantastic to take care of everything. I've also talked to the technicians who have come out to do the work, and they get paid right away. So I’m very impressed with AHS. In fact, I’ve referred a couple of people to American Home Shield's website and I was getting the technicians here signed up with AHS as well.
