American Home Shield has been wonderful. My only disappointment is that they don’t cover gas fireplaces. And so, I’m having another company come out and look at my gas fireplace today. But other than that, the contractors that AHS has sent out here have done a really good job. They’ve been efficient and very knowledgeable.

I submit my claims through a mobile app and it's super easy to use. Within 24 hours, a contractor contacts me and if I need them sooner to just figure out a time, AHS will give me the number and tell me to call the contractor directly. When my dishwasher had a power failure where it kept coming on in the middle of the cycle and there was soap in the bottom of it when it finished draining, AHS sent Colorado Appliance Parts and Service. The contractor who came out here had to order a part. It took the end of one week for the parts to come in. It didn’t take long, and everything works fine now. I can run a load of dishes without the cycle stopping in the middle and there's no power failure.

When we did laundry, the washing machine would drain, but it would drain into the basement floor so the drain sack. Then some of our floor drains in the basement were clogged apparently. When we purchased the home, we knew we had the warranty. We called American Home Shield and they said that they will be in touch with the contractor, Hensley Plumbing. Their technician contacted us, looked at it and told us what was going on. We paid out $75 deductible online, then he came, did the repairs, put a dent in, rooter the drain, and everything has been perfect. He was prompt, thorough and did a very good job. It was a very positive interaction with American Home Shield.

When my stove stopped working, American Home Shield's response was quick. I go online when filing claims because it's easier. A technician from Sears came and he was very talkative. But he knew what he was doing and he did a good job. A part had to be ordered and the following week, the technician came back. The stovetop has been working. I’m very satisfied so far.

When our clothes dryer quit heating, I called American Home Shield and they filled out the paperwork. The next day, a guy showed up, replaced the heating element and we’ve been in business since. We've been with American Home Shield for three years and the experience has been great with them. The people who have been out are very professional and courteous. They also seem to know what they’re doing. AHS is worth having.

My garage door started acting up and then all of a sudden, it quit working altogether. I filed a claim to American Home Shield online and they told me that I would be contacted by the garage door company within 24 hours. The next morning, I got a phone call from the company and they set up the appointment for two days after that. The guy came out on a Monday, looked at the garage door and diagnosed that it had a broken part. That Friday, he came back out to replace the part. When he put in the part, however, the garage door started doing the same thing it was doing prior to him working on it. So, he told me that he was gonna have to replace the entire garage door opener. An appointment was scheduled the following week and he came out and replaced the whole thing. Everything is working great now. I've already talked to my brother about getting American Home Shield and he's looking into it now.

You call for service after you've paid for 2 years. The contractors show up. Never diagnose properly the first time. Then you wait days for parts that they can buy at Lowe's/Home Depot. 4 weeks/dryer. This time CNJ Services LLC came out to diagnose our water heater. The repair guy said it was the electricity and to call an electrician, which we did for $40.00. Not the electricity! Call AHS again, they reschedule for a second time. My husband loses another 3 hours of work to wait and CNJ Services LLC - NO SHOW. We call and they tell us it will be another 4 days until the parts come in. How do they even know what parts to order when he said it was the electricity to start. Come to find out he contacted the manufacture on the side of the water heater and ordered parts for free. (Again, what parts he said it was the electricity?) Both companies are scams and have no customer service. I hope Mr. Rex Tibbens can sleep at night running his ** company.

Have placed 10 service calls for A/C, furnace and pool equipment this year. 80% of calls have required multiple visits due to incorrect diagnosis, ordering of parts, and prolonged periods of waiting for each. Each call is $75, cost of warranty is $750, $1500 total so far. If each incident were priced individually with private service providers, I most likely would have paid more at this point. However, the service and subsequent repairs would be much faster and accurate. For example, if your A/C is broken in July or your heat is broken in November, you should expect to wait up to a week or more to have it repaired. Whereas, if you contacted a service provider directly, they would move and behave at the speed of competition.

Additionally, if your A/C or furnace is shot, (this happened to me) DO NOT expect that it will simply be replaced free of charge. There are multiple items that they do not cover (refrigerant, etc.) and you will find that it will cost you at least a few thousand dollars to have it replaced with the warranty. As well, you may end up with refurbished parts that will simply break again. This math favors replacing the unit on your own privately and availing yourself of the manufacturer's warranty. In short, know what you're getting into here. The service is slow and if you have a failure in a major system, you will be better off replacing it on your own.

My mother was very happy with the contractors from AC Pros who came out. They walked right up with their business card, which no one ever does. They were very professional and she highly recommended them. It used to be hard having an issue with the AC issue but now that it is working, everything’s better. A light on the stovetop wouldn't go off and American Home Shield sent somebody out and he fixed it. I had AHS last year and got them again this year. They send out good people to take care of what needs to get taken care of. I have dealt with other home warranty companies but so far, AHS has been upfront with me. And they had done what they said they were going to do and I would recommend them. Their fee to have someone come out is higher than most of the other places that I've dealt with. But, people get what they pay for. When I sell the house, the warranty is going to go with it, and that’s one of the pluses on the sale of this house. I am very happy with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield has been really great so far. I file a claim on their website most of the time and then they send somebody out. Some of the contractors have been really nice. The most recent claim I had was for my refrigerator and I'm still waiting on them to fix it. But the contractor that AHS sent out here the first time was rude. The guy was from ACE Appliance and he called me on the phone before he came out here. He asked what was going on and I told him that I thought it was the compressor. He then said that he would be here the next day to look at it. He showed up and told me that it was the compressor and that somebody would be in touch with me before lunch. But I never heard back from him.

The following week, American Home Shield sent another person out here which was through ACS, and they were great. They were here whenever they said they were gonna be here. They even came out on a Saturday. They also said that it was the compressor and that they would get back with the company. But it took like forever, and I had to submit another claim through American Home Shield and follow up with them. They sent ACE back out here to replace the compressor.

ACE scheduled the appointment three different time. The first time, the guy called me to ask when we could meet and I told him that he said it would be that day. He apologized and told me that he was overbooked that day. Staying up waiting on them when I need to be sleeping was kind of a pain. But then, the next day he called me back and said the same thing that he overbooked and he would do it next day. So I called American Home Shield and I asked if there was any way they could send the second people back out here because I really don't like ACE Appliance. But the girl I talked that day told me that they were wanting too much for ACS to come out and do the repairs, so they went back with ACE.

On the third day, the guy showed up and he supposedly fixed it after he spent several hours out here, only for it to still not get cold. He came back out here about a week after that saying that there was a Freon leak that he couldn't fix, and he was gonna submit it to the company saying that he couldn't fix it, and for the fridge just to replaced. But I haven't heard back from anybody since then, and this was several weeks ago. American Home Shield should look at their contractors a little bit better. But as far as their customer service, they've always been really nice.

The hot water heater refused to give me hot water, and it was leaking on the floor of the utility room. A new hot water heater did the trick, but I had to pay a bunch of money, and I’m real angry with American Home Shield. Niebuhr Plumbing said that the pipes were not the right distance for the connection, and that American Home Shield would not pay that. So, in addition to the $75 service call, I had to pay for some connections to be made. So, it’s the hidden charges and things that American Home Shield will not cover that has got me good and upset with them. I had another claim with a problem with them, and that one was even worse. They're giving lousy service and I’m not happy with American Home Shield.

I filed a claim over the phone for my water heater and the process was easy. It's difficult on the weekends, 'cause I'm in the construction field too, but it's fairly quick. It's also a hard moment right now because of the hurricane and it would be tough to get anybody. Nevertheless, the water heater's bladder that had gone bad was replaced and everything has been fine now. I've had American Home Shield for many years and everything's good. I'd recommend them too.

I submitted a claim to AHS online, and the contractor they sent out was very nice. After figuring out what was wrong with the dryer, he ordered the part, and then came back and installed it. The dryer has been functioning fine since its repair. But one thing that didn't work out too right was that they billed me twice for the second call and it took me a while to get that off of my credit card. Also, it takes forever trying to get AHS by phone. There's a long wait and they should do something about that.

The water of the dishwasher goes into the garbage disposal and when my dishwasher flooded the floor, I checked the disposal and it was not responding when turned on and off. So, I called American Home Shield and the first guy automatically said the disposal was misused although I didn’t use it often. It was pretty and brand new when I put in the sink when I bought the house a year ago. So, I knew that in that length of time, I had not done any misuse and I was very upset that he accused me.

I complained to American Home Shield and they sent out another guy. He found that some wire in the disposal burnt out and he could smell the burnt wire. He said it could not be fixed and had to be replaced. He then replaced the garbage disposal and it has been working fine. I was very pleased with how American Home Shield handled my situation. I'm very happy with them. I tried a cheaper company for a while and I was very disappointed so, I am very pleased to be another return customer of American Home Shield because I used them at my other residence for years.

The house that we bought was closed in August and when we got in there, the washer was working fine. After two weeks, I would turn on the washer and it wouldn’t start. So, I would tap it and it would start to work. I would go back an hour later to go put it on the dryer and the water would still be sitting there. If I shut the lid, sometimes it would start back up or I would have to give another tap to get it to start right back up. I originally went online and tried doing submitting a claim and setting up the appointment that way but that didn’t quite work. When I called American Home Shield, the hold time was very long but the lady that answered the phone got the appointment and everything squared away which was great.

When the repair company came out, the rep was super courteous. I told him everything that was going on and he took the washer apart. He said it was the timer where I push and pull them out to get it to start and the switch was bad as well, so he would order the part. He asked if I had the model number or the serial number and I didn’t have it nor any instruction manuals. He said that it usually takes about five days with American Home Shield and since I didn’t have the model number and serial number, it might be about 10 days. So, he was totally transparent with me. He told me that as soon as he got the parts, he would let us know. That happened on a Friday and then I waited the Thursday after the next one. I called them and said I was just checking out.

The lady that answered the phone said that AHS tried calling me. I didn’t get a call, but we were moving and a lot of things were happening. They emailed the pictures to Whirlpool who couldn't figure out the model number and they also checked some serial and model numbers. AHS wanted to give idea about the replacement options.

I called AHS and the lady who answered the phone was super courteous. She was good because she explained the situation to me. She said they couldn’t get the parts. I was fine without the part but my girlfriend had been doing research on washing machines and she found Speed Queen. If it was on the list that they gave us, we could go that route. So when we got the email, we went online and we looked at them but the company wasn’t on the list. When I was talking to the lady on the phone, she told us exactly how the process would work if we had a washer in mind that was not on the list. So, we went that route, went to the appliance store and ordered it.

The lady instructed me to take a picture of the invoice or send a text and then our check will be in the mail in two weeks. I had the check in five days and I was stoked with that. AHS has exceeded my expectations when we were shopping through the home warranty. They have three tiers and I opted for the middle tier and just paid the difference. I'm happy I did. I see value on it and AHS was awesome. I appreciate it.

About a week later, all of a sudden, the thing’s leaking again. So, I called them, and the guy came out and replaced a gasket in the knob that turns the water on and off. And that seems to be working. AHS told me that because this was the same problem, I wouldn’t have to pay another $75 fee. But sure enough, they went ahead and charged me for it. I have three accounts with American Home Shield right now and I’ve used them repeatedly over a number of years and in general, I’ve had good service from American Home Shield and from the people who’ve provided the services. It’s easy to submit a claim online, but if the problem is complex and you need to do it over the phone to speak with someone because of a particular type of problem, it’s very difficult to get to a person on the line. You will, eventually, but you’ll end up waiting for 15 to 30 minutes.

Two years ago, I was having problems with the refrigerator, sometimes it was cold and sometimes it was not. The guy who came out to service the $10,000 built-in refrigerator had taken some things apart and asked if he could turn off the water because it had a dispenser for ice cubes and cold water. I told him to go ahead and do that. I was doing some other things while he was working and didn’t pay a lot of attention to what he was doing. That was a mistake. He slipped the refrigerator out, which isn’t difficult to do, and turned off the water and proceeded to work. I came back in and he told me that all I needed was a little Freon, and he added some Freon, and it should be fine. The refrigerator was back in place. This was my first experience in having a problem like this with the refrigerator, so I just assumed that he knows what he’s doing so that must be right.

After a year, and I noticed that I’m having the same problems and at that time, I was getting ready to travel to Europe and I said, “I’ll deal with it later and see what happens.” I came back, and time passed, and eventually it got worse and worse and worse. So, I didn’t want to have the same company come out because he had taken some plates off the refrigerator that I found after he left that he had not reassembled or put back in place. The screws were loose at the top. What he had done hadn’t been effective. So, I ended up getting another company who came out.

The guy came out and he replaced at least one element that wasn’t working properly. He said that if this unit has a leak, that doesn’t solve it by putting the Freon in. If it continues to leak, you have to find the leak and fix the leak. We thought that fixing a switch that was stuck would take care of it. But it didn’t. In a few days, I could tell it wasn’t working.

So, I started keeping a detailed log of exactly what the temperature was and how it was fluctuating. I figured when the guy came back, whoever came back, that it’d be helpful to know what’s happening, how it’s behaving. I ended up getting the same people who had come out initially. He said, “I’m gonna put more Freon in.” And I said, “I had a technician who was here before,” and told him what happened. And then I said, “If we’re putting the Freon, all we’re doing is continuing to leak, and that’s not fixing the problem.” He completely ignored it and pumped it full of Freon, and it has functioned properly since. The probability is that it is still leaking Freon and that this’ll be a problem that will reoccur. So, it’s just a matter of, “Is it gonna happen again? And if so, who am I gonna get?”

I’ve got a $10,000 refrigerator, and American Home Shield will only pay $3,000 to replace it minus the cost of service that’s been provided on it. It would have been great if the company that serviced the refrigerator had told me that it’s a very, very small leak which is difficult to find and repair. What they’re doing is waiting for it to get large enough to find it, then they can repair it. I had another situation where I lost an air conditioning unit, and they completely replaced it. So, despite the fact that I’ve had these issues and problems, I have had good service from American Home Shield and they’ve provided a valuable service to me. So, from that perspective, I would still recommend them.

It was painless when I submitted the claim online for the door issue I was having. I just followed the directions, and it worked. The locksmith was here pretty quickly. Then he explained the problem and presented a solution. And everything kinda worked out really well. The things that he fixed seem to be working great. It's nice to be able to lock my doors now. When you're buying a house, a home warranty is very valuable 'cause you never know what's gonna surprise you.

We depend on ice a lot and lately, we've been having trouble with our ice maker in the refrigerator. We submitted a claim over the phone with AHS and it was easy to do. But AHS had to send out a second tech and he had trouble plugging the refrigerator in. He put in a new ice maker, but everything was kinda stiff. Then, he didn’t plug it in far enough and it fell out, but it wasn’t noticeable. So, the next time we filed a claim, which was about two months later because the refrigerator wouldn’t work, the third tech came out and found out it was unplugged. Since the third tech was out, the refrigerator has been working fine. We had to pay $75 for each time the techs came out but the repair people were good for the refrigerator and I like them. Our refrigerator is a GE product, so they’re good. I thought that AHS should’ve given me a break on that last call but having them is a lot better than having to foot the whole bill.

Vector Appliances came out to take a look at my refrigerator. The seals were broken and then the compressor cracked out. I had filed that claim online which was easy and American Home Shield got somebody out there on the first call within 24 hours. When Vector came out, it was before the compressor had stopped working. But they did acknowledge that the seals needed to be replaced and that the water sensor was broken. They saw the problem and took a bunch of pictures.

The technician said he would have to get back to American Home Shield and they would get back to us as soon as they had an answer. But we did not hear for about a week. I called American Home Shield's claims department because evidently people don't make those seals for that refrigerator anymore. The contractor couldn't replace the housing on the water dispenser. American Home Shield paid us to replace the refrigerator. They did what we signed up for so that would make a success.

This house was empty for a little over three years when we bought it and before this house, I have never bought a home warranty. After the first year with American Home Shield, I renewed it and paid for it every year. I called in the claims and the rep was wonderful. I called about my washer dying and while I had her on the phone, I went ahead and told her about my electrical issues. So, she dispatched someone for the washer and the electrician. They both came out and were knowledgeable as to why I called and what was wrong and took care of it.

When you walk in the kitchen, there is a set of switches to turn the lights on, another set of switches at the end of the kitchen and a third set of switches by the family room. Two sets of switches quit working so, they needed to be replaced. I also have lights in my daughter’s closet, in my closet and in the downstairs workout room that wouldn’t come on or if they come on, they would immediately go off. They had been that way for a little while and when the switches in the kitchen went out, I called AHS and had them get somebody put to take care of all these at once. So, the contractor took care of the lights which all needed new ballast. He also replaced the two sets of light switches in the kitchen and the spare bedrooms upstairs. He also replaced the exhaust fan in the bathroom.

Also, when I bought the house five years ago, the inspector told me that all six exhaust fans needed to be replaced and that they weren’t doing an adequate job. I asked all six of them to be checked when I called American Home Shield. The contractor did and he said that five of them were loud, but he still felt like they were being efficient, but one was shut. Instead of replacing it, he got a new motor for it and he came out to the house and he said it wasn’t the same motor, so then he took it back. He was out to the house a couple of times because that motor was giving him some fit.

During the first couple of years that I had AHS, I would call and I would be on hold a very short amount of time. In the past three years when I've called them, there were times I've been on hold for an hour. So, it was frustrating that when you call, you're on hold for quite a long time. However, I would recommend them when it comes to service and care. Also, if something needs to be fixed, it gets fixed and if it needs to be replaced, it gets replaced. I told three people within the last five weeks that they should call AHS and get it because they were asking me about my washer breaking down. I told them how easy it was to call AHS and that they sent someone who checked it out. It always seemed to be comparable to what I had and I pay $100 for the service fee.

There were two issues and one was for a possible leak. The techs were very prompt and quick. They did a diagnosis and we had to pay them $350 on top of a $100 fee. But the issue was taken care of, so it was good. They also came to fix the filter on the refrigerator because it was not working right. They figured the problem out really quickly and it worked fine when they left. However, after three weeks, it's now making the same noise again.

American Home Shield has an 800 number-type deal. You dial them and tell them about the issue. I get an actual person and my interactions with them have been good. In the past, they didn’t have enough people answering the phones. It was about a year ago and I used to wait on the phone. It could take 20 minutes. But now, they seemed to have fixed that. There's been a huge improvement.

American Home Shield doesn't supply the contractor. It’s like an insurance policy and they have relationships. So the one who does the job is the local contractor. Those people don’t work for American Home Shield. Nonetheless, the contractors American Home Shield refers are out in a few days. That's relatively quick and they're great. They’re friendly, honest and professional. They do straight talk and they're straight shooters. They’re not gonna sell you stuff. They’re just trying to help you. All the repairs they’ve done have been topnotch too. I've had two with Johnny’s Appliance and TV Repair. One was for an oven and one was for an exhaust fan on the cooktop. But when they sent someone to work on the HVAC, they had to contract to someone from Birmingham, which was an hour away as opposed to someone in the local area. Then when our bar fridge went out and we wanted that repaired, they might come back and said it was not included in the coverage. The experiences with American Home Shield are usually really good. Recently, there was flooding underneath our washing machine and the company Prestige came out. The contractor fixed something on the bottom machine, but, a couple of days later, we noticed there was some leaking water from the tub of the machine. The guy came out and fixed that, but then I had more water on the floor. He also said that the water was not draining through the pipes.

So I called out a plumber, and they cleared it out. But, then, I had more water flowing on the floor, so I called Prestige back again. Their guy cleaned out a little stuff in the soap container to see if that was blocking some water. He said, "I watched the water come up on the drain and it was coming up. So if you're running two appliances, it's not draining. You need the plumber back".

I called AHS back, and I was told there was no charge on the return visits within 60 days. However, they sent me bills that I had felt were paid already. They also sent me an email saying that I owed money, which I did not. They charged me $75 and another $100 for a visit that had already been paid for in another property in the desert.

The guy from Prestige said the second thing they repaired had nothing to do with the first one, but he went ahead and repaired it. Since they came out, I didn't contest. Even though I was told there would be no charge on the follow-up, they charged. I told AHS to go ahead and give the $75 to the washing machine people since they came out three times and it was okay with me. But he had my credit card so I didn't know why they were saying it was a late payment.

The rep who I spoke with at AHS said that if I paid that, then forget about it. But since I was getting an email the second time about it, I called AHS since I also needed to have the plumber come out. He said he'd look into it and get back to me, but to my knowledge, no one called back. What the rep at AHS did was set up for Prestige to have another service call. But I didn't need them to come back. Since it was a complex issue involving two different providers, I think AHS got confused. So I called Prestige and told them it was a mistake. But then I receive the bills again on the email.

I still need the plumbers to come out. I was in a serious accident and was in the hospital for a week, two weeks ago. And so, I haven't called back to get the plumber to straighten it all back out again. It was some kind of misunderstanding. This has been happening no more than a couple of months now and it is very difficult.

Prestige and the plumbers were very nice and I like them very much. They both also did a good job, but apparently, the plumbers hadn't cleared the line deep enough. It's just that it's a line that connects to the bathroom line that's in the next room over, and maybe they were cautious not to put a roto so close to the toilet. The water still backs up a little bit. We've kinda managed it from that level. But if somebody does need to come out and clear it a little more, it would be better in case somebody comes here and doesn't know. Other than that, I would recommend AHS. I've been with them for three years and they have been responsive. They've sent good people for the most part and I've been happy with their service.

I'm not too happy with American Home Shield. They make it very difficult to get items replaced. All items that I've had to have repaired multiple times that have continued to break and malfunction. It's aggravating and I have to keep paying them a premium. AHS would much rather collect the money on the premiums and the deductibles than pay anything out. We had an issue with the washing machine, and the contractor came and replaced every moving part inside it because it was making all those kinds of noise during spin-out. But today, they had to send somebody else out because it was making the same noise again.

The biggest thing that I don't like about AHS is their outsourcing. They outsource you to these people in countries where English is definitely not the first language. They're rude, and they're hard to speak to and to understand. They don't relay information properly. They don't even input data properly. I called AHS two weeks ago to try to have the washing machine looked at, and one of the outsourced people said that everything was good. I was under the impression that everything was situated and I was gonna be getting a call from GE Appliances, but never did. So, I called AHS back yesterday and I got an American person, and he said that I did not have any service request listed and it looked like nobody put it in.

AHS doesn't offer any kind of reconciliation. They tell me that I gotta re-schedule. It's aggravating because it's not the first time that there has been an error because of one of their mistakes. It doesn't seem like they care when somebody makes a mistake. But their contractors have been good. They're courteous and professional. I've been happy with things when they work out, and it was easy to get things to work out.

After not hearing anything from AHS, we called and spent days being given the runaround. They were waiting on this or that. We have 5 young children in the home, 1 with special needs that relate to food. I need a working refrigerator. This has been a burden on my family physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. After over two weeks, AHS has again returned the claim to their approval department to determine whether they would repair or replace the fridge. We still do not have any answers, or a date regarding when we may have a working fridge again. This has been a horrible experience.

I have had an open work order since July 2018 and it is still open as of today. My work order was for a water heater replacement; at the initial open of the work order I advised AHS reps that I recently had a water heater replacement from AHS and their authorized contractors 3 years ago. At the time of the work order processing no one advised me of a manufacture warranty and 2 of their authorized contractors told AHS that my water heater was 7 years old. The contractors told AHS they called to verify if the water heater was 7 years old and under warranty; but they didn't.

AHS did not further investigate or didn't advised me about a manufacture warranty until 10/24/2014, almost 5 months after my open work order. My manufacture warranty was not brought to my attention until cash on lieu was involved and I advised them that I just replaced my water heater 3 yrs ago. In the meantime I was advised by authorizations and cash on lieu that my work order was denied due to manufacture warranty (almost 5 months later).

In the between time 1 authorized contractor came out to estimate the work order but they advised AHS that their company did not have the manpower for the job. The 2nd authorized contractor came out did the measurements and advised AHS they could do the job and it could be replaced with the water heater that was ordered even though the measurements were larger. I had an appointment with the authorized contractor for replacement a few weeks later but AHS did send the order for the water heater to the supplier, therefore the contractor could not replace the water heater and I took off time from work to be home.

When I called AHS they I was told someone dropped the ball. Few more weeks passed by, then the contractor finally got the water heater and scheduled an appointment for replacement and then I was told after 3 times of entering my attic I need to replace the subflooring where my water heater is located. So I had to remove my own water heater to replace subflooring. I finally was able to get AHS to have the contractors replace the water heater but the water heater was a foot taller than contractors estimated. So they were not able to install a water heater again.

Authorized contractors was given information to replace my water heater with the wrong water heater because AHS did not authorize the conversion model of my obsolete water heater. I have been back and forth with AHS for months I was never advised of NON COVERED COSTS for codes and modifications. So I called the contractor who replaced my water heater 3 yrs ago and got an outline of the work order and what was paid from AHS and compared it to the work order for 2018 and nothing is different as far as replacements and work completed.

I brought this up to AHS authorization department and advised them that I never paid for non convered costs or even discussed non covered cost prior to contractors arriving to my home on numerous occasions. I have been back and forth with AHS authorization representatives over the phone and they disconnect from the line while trying to assist. I have been told 3 times that a supervisor would call me for the last 4 days and someone called last evening and disconnected from the line in the middle of our conversation and didn't call me back.

I tried to call back but it was an automated line with different options. My plight is the customer service satisfaction is disappointing and I have been a prominent paying customer for 10 years. Supervisor do not investigate your issues and concerns without you having to follow up with them. After almost 5 months of an open work order there is no seeking of a resolution.

No problems. Today, called because my HVAC is not working. Turns out the ductwork was not installed properly so it can't push heat to all the rooms. This repair is not covered, even though it is clearly an improper install. They said this was a modification, and not covered. My guess is. This problem will cost a bit, and the toilet repair didn't.

We’re pleased with AHS and would recommend it to friends. We’ve had it for many years. We had it in our former home and when we built this house, we started with it. It gives us a sense of security knowing they’re gonna send somebody qualified. When the oven wasn't working properly, we submitted a claim online. The contractor was responsive and came out to check it. He said everything was fine and ever since then, the oven has been working.

I submit claims online and AHS responds with an e-mail, but sometimes it takes three days to get a call from the person they’ve assigned the claim to. We changed the cellphone we want them to call on and it was never saved, so the wrong cellphone ends up being called. All in all, our claims experience have all been good. Recently, we filed a claim for the motor of the fan for our AC and it was fixed promptly. It’s nice to just pay that $75 and whatever it needs to be fixed gets fixed. I would highly recommend American Home Shield.

When I submitted a claim to AHS for a main sewer pipe issue in my house, I did it on the phone. And while the customer service reps were okay, I felt like they didn't really understand what was going on. Even if you're as thorough as you can be and you’re telling them, they will not notice. So when the repairmen come out to do the job, they have no idea what are you talking about.

American Home Shield only use one company in my area. And that company is like a two-guy business. They're very small. However, they have been polite and they have done what they were supposed to. In fact, the main sewer pipe doesn't leak anymore since the repair. Other than that, it's hard to get a hold of their reps. You're on hold forever. And they much rather you use the computer and we're not always accessible to a computer. Still, while it hasn't been a bad experience, it can be a lot better. I might still recommend AHS to somebody.

Their website was user-friendly when I submitted a claim. I also go there to check out my status. I had to call them a couple of times and they seemed to be helpful. That way, I don’t have to wait so long for somebody to answer the phone. But sometimes, I have to make a call if I’m not near my laptop. One time, the pool wasn’t running properly and South Tampa Pool and Spa came out. But several of the problems were considered normal wear and tear, so they were not covered. Other than that, I've had the American Home Shield warranty on that house even when I lived in it and and they’ve been pretty good but not great. The technician came out in two days and my husband was really impressed with him. He explained everything. Our washing machine was not draining and it was leaking water all over the floor, and the tech showed where the leak was and that something was cracked at the top. AHS replaced our washing machine. We really appreciate having them. And any time I hear people say that something broke in their house, I'd ask if they have American Home Shield, and then I tell them that they need to get it.

The air went totally out in my air conditioning unit. I called AHS and we talked about how quickly the contractor would be out. They got somebody out here within two days. They told me I had to pay the $100 upfront, but they never took it out. They came back and got it back later. The contractor and I talked a lot. Once he was down here, he worked and found out what the problem was and what it was gonna be. Something major was initiated and something else had been done on that unit. When they came back, they decided they were gonna replace the whole unit.

If the contractor was repairing it, he could have done it that day. However, we were waiting on the purchase order to be finalized, which took four days. They had to get the purchase order number over to the company that they’re buying the unit from. Once they got it over to the company, the company had to recognize that it was gonna be a pick-up versus a delivery. Then the company that needed to put it in there was able to get it done.

When the contractor first got out, it was about 100 degrees outside and my house was so hot. I stayed in a hotel. They weren’t able to get it replaced until after that weekend. But I love the fact that I only had to pay $100 for a new unit, which could have cost $6,000 to $8,000. They were able to get the unit to me, got in, and took care of everything about it. They were really professional down here. The AC has been working like a dream since then.

We've had a couple of claims here in the last year and this last time, the technician arrived in three hours. Amazing! I had a broken garbage disposal full of water and I asked him if he was gonna put a towel down or a bucket under. He was like, “Yeah, I guess I should do that.” On the other hand, he fixed everything and it was great.

But when I was dealing with the heating and air claim, the representative was hard to understand. There was a bit of a language barrier. They got the problem resolved though. We’ve had AC issues ever since we bought the house. American Home Shield was the actual original people for the previous owners as far as what needed to be replaced. They're the home inspectors, as far as the AC is concerned. They replaced one of them but they pushed this one out as far as they could. Anytime we submit a claim, we always talk to somebody about the situation and know what’s going on. That way, they know. If we have a question about it, we wanna make sure that, “This has been going on for a while. What are we gonna do?” “Let’s send them back out and let’s have them reevaluate it again.”

AHS has been out here for the AC problem five times and it seems like it’s always the same problem. It’s a temporary fix and it’s like a Band-Aid on a more serious problem. There was a leak in the AC unit, so they’ve been out here twice for that. Then they would come and work on something else. They’ve been outside for an hour working, they come in and tell me that it's the filter, and I didn't know what they do outside. I change out the filters pretty regularly. They would say that it was just the duct and we needed to replace it. I have a monthly subscription and they always get an abundance of air filters. So I know that’s not the issue.

American Home Shield has been great people. They are really nice and respond well. But as far as who represents them, in a small town, AHS is stuck with those. AHS lets the good guys go and leave the crappy guys behind. They should reevaluate as far as who they let go versus who they keep, just because it’s an extra dollar that they have to spend. Quality versus quantity is so much more important. If AHS lets a company go that was amazing versus a company that has been out here so many times for a recurring problem, it just seems like the company tries to make up something so they can keep coming, they want the bucks from AHS and I don’t want AHS to pay any more than I wanna have.

For two months, we were in Europe. When we came back, we realized that when you open the refrigerator, the light wouldn’t come on. But J&R told us it had been more than 30 days from the first claim so we had to redo another claim. I call to file claims and it's very quick. It is a two-minute conversation and the reps are friendly and nice.

It took J&R about four days to come out. But when the technician came out the second time, he was literally here less than 10 minutes. Right away, he opened up the refrigerator and said that it was the light switch. He said that it was most probably not connected and he connected it. So far, everything has been good. I would tell others to get a warranty with American Home Shield. Here in Connecticut, if you’re selling your property, by law, you have to have a guarantee for one year and it’s usually Home Shield. He said American Home Shield could pay for that, so we called them and they called us back to say they got the company that will take care of it. The septic tank company called us and they are from Houston. We live in Miami so I don't know hay we got a company from Houston. There was enough plumber and septic tank people in the Miami area.

The septic tank company from Houston called and they said they don't do septic tank. They can do the diagnostic but we need to empty the septic tank. We then called American Home Shield, and the company that they originally sent from down here said that they could get another company down here that they deal with and they could empty the septic tank. It would cost $450 but I had to pay for it here. They cannot wait until they get reimbursed. They told me that I could pay them for the septic tank clean and diagnostic, and American Home Shield would reimburse me. I agreed with that and they came the next morning.

They emptied the septic tank which was $450, and the guy did the diagnostic which was $350. I gave him a check for $800 and I got a copy of the check. When the diagnostic came in, it said that the drainage field had to be rebuilt. They have to put new stones and it would cost $4200. I told them to go ahead and do it. I paid for it because American Home Shield doesn’t cover that, but they will cover the $800 that I paid initially. We sent copies of the bills, the septic tank cleanup, and the checks for the $800 to American Home Shield.

American Home Shield said that they didn't have an authorization number, so they didn't pay for it. We sent it again and they said we shouldn't email it. We have to send it through a fax. We then sent it for fax. We have so many numbers, and I don't know what day of the week anymore with those people, and they said they never gave an authorization to the people that they sent. I told American Home Shield that that was their guy and they should at least call him to give them the number. They told me that they couldn't do that and that was my responsibility. So I called the guy that American Home Shield sent and sometimes, he changes his voice back. When my wife called him, he said he would call up. They're stretching it out and giving their authorization number that if you pay, they would do the cleanup and reimburse you. Until now, nobody paid anything.

I've been with this company for over 35 years, but I've never been treated like this. It's unbelievable. I cannot even get somebody to call me back. They told me that they would solve the problem and that they would call back in two or three days. But they did that four times and nobody ever called me. When I called them, they didn't even know who was the person that I talked to. We had to tell them the whole story and give them the numbers and names. We never heard from American Home Shield and from the guy that they sent out. It's been a freaking nightmare. I would cancel my contract with American Home Shield very soon.

My air conditioner started to go out. It was frozen up, so I knew I had a Freon leak. I put in our service request online with American Home Shield, but their website was a little slow at times and it kicked me out a couple of times. I did manage to get it through eventually, and it got taken care of really quickly. The contractor came out very promptly and they were very professional. They kept me apprised of what was going on and they were very, very good to work with. There was a part that had gone out that they did not have. They said they had to go back and report it back to American Home Shield, and then they would get the clearance on how to go forward from there. So, they weren’t able to resolve the issue in one visit. I filed the claim on a Friday, and they were out on Monday for their initial visit, and then they were back on Tuesday to fix it.

I’ve got a special needs child and she doesn’t regulate her body temperature very well. Without the air conditioner, she overheats. So, it was definitely a relief to get it fixed as quickly as we did. We didn’t have to worry about taking her somewhere else and having her stay with someone else that had working air conditioning. Our air conditioner has been working fine since the repair. It was a really good experience on my end. I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield. I would and have recommended them highly.

About three weeks since we started living in the house, we noticed we didn't have any hot water. Before we had taken over the house, the past homeowner showed me how to reset the hot water tank and when we did that, the hot water came back. But it would work for a couple of weeks and then go back out. As we did that reset, the frequency got less and less. Soon, we were doing it every two to three days. Then one time, it didn't seem like it reset. That was when we called American Home Shield. By that time, we had been living in the house for a little over a month.

I had my order number and I called the claim in. It was fully automated and it was a seamless process. After about 5:00pm of the same day, the plumber called me, wanting to schedule when he could come out. He wanted to come over within two days but we were busy at that time so we had to schedule for him to come in four days. When he got there, he wanted to make sure that the concern was legitimate, which I understood. I was there to help answer any calls that he had. He did his due diligence and made sure he reset everything like I had been doing. Then he wanted to check if maybe I just didn't reset it properly but it happened to him too. I think it tripped the breaker on the unit so rather than replace the whole electric hot water tank, he replaced the two heating elements.

He called me the next day to make sure everything was fine and even about a week after. He wanted to make sure the hot water tank was still functioning properly. He even told over the phone to me to bump it up just a little bit. Everything's been fine since the repair. As a matter of fact, he texted me about a week ago, and I told him the hot water tank's working great and I thanked him for checking. I really appreciated it. He was very nice and professional, and we had a great experience. Other than that claim, we also noticed that we could call in a warranty call to change the locks. We didn't know that but we found it as we were looking at our deal. So we're gonna go ahead and do that too.

There was a leak in the upstairs toilet which was dripping into our kitchen. I guess it was coming from the wax seal. I filed a claim and American Home Shield was really polite. There weren't any issues with getting anybody out here. In fact, that claim drove two contractors to come out. One was a plumber who had to pull out and replace a whole toilet. It didn't take very long. The only thing was the fact that when they replaced the toilet, they ran a gray seal around the base of it instead of a white one. Maybe, that's the most industrial strength stuff they have and it just happened to be gray. It is noticeable but the work is done. They did a good job and everything worked out. Plus I can probably always run a bead of white caulk around there.

The other contractor came out from Perfection Drywall about two weeks after. American Home Shield had recommended to wait a couple of weeks because they wanted to make sure that the leak was gone. The drywall guy was a young gentleman who was really polite and professional. He had to replace a piece of drywall that had to be cut out on the first floor to gain access. Water had also been leaking down and it caused damage to that area of the drywall. He did a good drywall job. He had also laid out a tarp and made sure everything was cleaned up. So he was super cool.

We had an issue with a refrigerator. We filed a claim over the phone with AHS and it was pretty easy. We’ve dealt with the contractor that they sent out many times before and he was amazing. He was really there to help you in any way that he could and he was a very kind and courteous person. He wasn't able to fix the issue on the refrigerator in one visit but that wasn’t his fault. That was an issue with the parts and it was something that made me consider changing companies from American Shield. But the gentleman let me know that it was an issue with the manufacturer of the product, so he saved them on that one because I was furious and I would've left.

They ended up replacing the refrigerator after a month and that was an issue because it’s a place where my daughter lives with two small children. I had to go buy a small refrigerator for her to use until we could get something resolved just to keep milk in the house. So that was completely unsatisfactory. Still, it's a good thing to have a home warranty and I’ve always had a good experience with AHS with the exception of this refrigerator claim. That is something they need to improve on their end because although it’s the manufacturer's problem, they were very well aware that that particular manufacturer is one that they cannot get parts for. So, there should be some resolution that happens a lot faster than leaving a single mother with two small children without a refrigerator for over a month. They should’ve immediately said that if they couldn't get the part, they were gonna go ahead and replace the refrigerator.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for many years. I pay over $90 a month to have this service. On Sunday 11/4/18 my washing machine broke. I called and was told a service provider would contact me within 24 hours to schedule an appt. I'm a teacher and work from 8-3 so I needed scheduling. The contractor did not call me, however I reached out to him on Monday after work and he came to my home to check my washing machine. He said he thought it needed a part and he would put in for a request to get the part and would call me back on Tuesday, (which he never did).

On Wednesday morning I called the contractor to see if the part was ordered and he said he could not get the part, but he put in a request from American Home Shield to get the part & suggested I call AHS to see the status. At around 9:10 AM Wed. 11/7 I spoke to a woman named Kim who said she would check on the status of the part and call me back within an hour, (which she never did). I called back at 10:30am and spoke to a woman named Katelyn who said she would put a call into the company that orders the parts and get back to me by 5pm, (which she never did). I called at 5pm and spoke to a woman named Jessica ** who I again explained the whole situation to and was told she would check and saw the part was never ordered and how busy the company is and how she understands how frustrating this is but I need to be patient because there is a procedure that needs to be followed. WOW!

After being put on hold numerous times throughout the day and getting nowhere I am going to cancel my contract with this company. They are terrible to work with and when I asked for a supervisor, I was told they had to call me back and would get a callback within 24-48 hours. I called back and spoke to Debra who was very helpful and explained that it shouldn't take more than 10-12 days to see if the part was available. SEE IF IT'S AVAILABLE, not get it! I obviously was very put off by this and would not recommend AHS and once this issue is resolved and a supervisor calls me back, I will determine if I will continue with this company.

They determined it was the heat exchanger that was bad, so usually they will change out the whole unit but not with AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. The service people got all the part #'s and sent it to AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. That was ok. Then I found out AMERICAN HOME SHIELD did the ordering on Monday Oct. 29th. The service people called me and said it would be 7 to 10 business days or more to get the part in. Well that cost $75 for the service call which was ok.

Then I get a call today 11/7/18 from the service people and wanted to know if AMERICAN HOME SHIELD contacted me about $195 removal and installation fee and that I needed to pay that to them before they will fix my unit. I'm not sure what AMERICAN HOME SHIELD does. I guess they are the go between the service people and the public. I could have done this without AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. The service people also told me that I will never get a new unit, that AMERICAN HOME SHIELD will keep replacing parts no matter how much it cost. Updated on 11/16/2018: I've escalated my case and they sent me another company in my house for the second opinion. The guy came to my house and he said he got the authorization from the AHS to run the leak detection and find the leaking location. After 10 days since I've had the second opinion, the plumbing company called me and they had no idea about they were supposed to do the leak detection so I followed up with AHS again and the customer service mentioned the company have to send another person to look to the inspection again (looks like they were not satisfied by the previous tech's answer to pay money and just trying to find the issue so they don't cover it). So the third guy came up the day after and said this is post tension foundation and not covered. Do not get coverage from AHS or you are wasting your time and money and they always find a way to not cover what they say they cover. I'm going to cancel my coverage.

Don't go for this company contract because it's useless. I had the request for SLAB Leaking. Their technician came look at it and then after 10 days of calling them to get any response they said it's not covered. SECTION E Number 4 on my contract it's not covered because it's post tension slab leaking (which is not in my contract). When they want to sell their service they tell you they would fix plumping and leaking but they are not. I've already paid $100 for the service request. I'm going to cancel my contract and never back to this company again.

Even after making sure that what just broke is covered in the extensive PDF list (which by the way feels like a well thought out legal document to exclude as much as possible form coverage) and then submitting a ticket, I find that most techs that show up find something else that could have possibly cause the issue and hence it is not covered because it's not normal wear and tear. I had a pipe leaking under a shower pan, and the tech justified the leak by stating that there was movement from the initial install (which happened 15 years ago) and due to that it is leaking and hence not covered.

Yesterday my Polaris booster pump stopped working. Again the tech showed up, and by looking at it told me it was caused by a dry run and that is not covered by normal wear and tear. How are we as customers suppose to be satisfied with this level of service? I didn't get this AHS insurance to have to research some of this equipment to figure out just how much BS I am getting. What kind of kickbacks are these techs getting to diagnose non working equipment by just looking at it and not taking things apart.

I guess as long as I keep paying the monthly fee and they get their $75 to show up everyone is happy but me. This feels like a total scam, and I have now had to fix these things on my own after paying AHS and the service techs. Someone needs to look into these kickbacks to the businesses AHS decides to work with. I am not happy at all and have been cheated out of an insurance policy that is suppose to fix these basic issues. I am better off keeping my $95 a month and pay myself $75 every time something breaks.

I have been with American Home Shield for the past 10+ yrs and by far this has been their worst. For 1 1/2 months, service call went out 16 SEP, (first service repair response 18 SEP 2018), we have been working with American Home Shield to get our refrigerator (GE Monogram) repaired/replaced. The fridge is 14yrs old and for the past 7+ yrs have had it repaired using AHS at a minimum 2x per year. At what point do they replace the refrigerator? This time has been the worst. With each repair we lose over $350.00 worth of groceries, we have lost groceries a couple of times during one repair billing several times. As you well know, ordering out and even daily shopping for groceries to consume each day and night is very time consuming and very expensive. And this has presented a logistical nightmare.

The service company came out 20 SEP 18, initiated a quick fix and needed to return for after ordering parts. Returned 25 SEP to install ordered part, refrigerator worked all of 1 week. 01 OCT called repair company, called returned 02 OCT to discuss repair date. Called American Home Shield report refrigerator still not working, called repair company (they say part on order). 06 OCT repair company return damper not working, needs another part, will return 09 OCT. Return 09 OCT with part, refridge should chill, give several hours, didn't work temporary fix; still not working. Repair company return 09 OCT damper not closing, new part on order. 16 OCT called AHS, they called repair company confirmed. 20 OCT repair company called back to setup repair for 5 OCT. Repair company call back parts came in but missing sealant, reschedule for 28 OCT. 28 OCT repair company returns to install parts, says will take several hours to chill, "NOT"!

01 NOV called AHS to complain, still w/o refridge, not working WTH? They call repair company. Reply "they told you when they left that your refridge won’t work, will need yet another part". "They will submit repair authorization today, it will take 24-48 hrs for approval through AHS claims". "After approval the repair company will order part and schedule to come out and repair". Bottom line my damn refrigerator is still not working. Expensive, all the way around for me. Out extra money for gas, time spent daily shopping for groceries, ordering carry out, paying for a useless service contract. I could have bought a new refrigerator for all the headache and frustration this AHS contract has caused. This is why they don't deserve the one star.

The contractor had to order parts which were two days late but it was understandable. Since the repair, the washer has been functioning well.

When the air conditioning system shut off, I checked everything but I didn't understand why. Outside, it wasn't running. Inside, it wasn't running. I don't know too much about air conditioning though. That was why I called American Home Shield. They do pretty good on everything. They try to get their client in right away and the home warranty takes care of the issues, especially when you've got hot weather coming in.

They sent a gentleman from Air Doctor AC and Heating of Orlando and he explained to me what happened. Based on that, I learned. He told me what I would need to do to keep the system at good maintenance. He told me that if I did it every month, I wouldn't have to have a repair guy come in here and do it for me. So that's what I've been doing. If something happens again when I call American Home Shield, I'm recommending that Air Doctor company comes out and does it.

One time, I submitted a claim online to AHS for my water heater. Because I set up my credit card information online, I don't have to worry about writing them a check. The first guy who came in started working on it. He told me he was the owner of the business but because they were running late, he came himself to get the work started. They had to order a water heater because mine was completely gone and get authorization from AHS for that replacement. They also had to find out what's my cost for the replacement because with the new water heater, they had to change a few things with the piping and the gas line.

Thereafter, another guy came and things were fixed within a week. During that time, my kids were miserable because there wasn't any hot water in the shower and I had to warm up the water in buckets. Still, there haven't been any issues since the repair. AHS has been responsive overall. I like their automated system because my son would generate the work order, and then AHS would send it to whoever they contact or agent they have set up. It's very quick and I get a message on my phone that I would be contacted within the next 24 hours.

I submit claims to American Home Shield over the phone and their reps have been very helpful. I even had one who went over the steps and afterwards followed up with me to make sure. Even when the contractor had completed the job, she called me back. Recently, the plumbing was backed up and Water Control Plumbing was sent out. They rodded out and they did a good job. American Home Shield really helped me out a whole lot. They also helped me out with my furnace when I called for that. American Home Shield warranty is very good to have and I love it. Some places will call about a service and other things but there is none of that with this company. Their service is strictly professional and I have referred seven people to them already.

I had called American Home Shield for the faucet. But I usually use either my laptop or the automated service to request a service. AHS' website is excellent. It saves time, everything's accurate and everything that was needed is listed over there. AHS called the spa people but they took too long to come. I fiddled with the faucet and it stopped dripping. The company never answered the phone. I already left messages for them to cancel the appointment because I didn't need them anymore. But they charged me still. I have been very busy and I didn't get the chance to talk to AHS and complain about the company.

And also, when I called for my refrigerator, they took a lot of time. They also had to order parts. I had to call back to ask them when are the parts coming and when are they coming back. I had to present to be on top of things. They know this wasn't my major fridge. And then, being without a fridge for 10 days is a lot to take. But when I called for my dishwasher repair, the techs came out right away the next day. The interactions with the techs were good. They knew what they were doing. After the repairs, everything has been wonderful and nothing went wrong. Having AHS gives me peace of mind that things get done, but it all depends on which vendor they're using. Some vendors are excellent and some are just not worth it. I'd tell others to go ahead and use American Home Shield but just be on top of things because they charge even if the techs don't come because they have our credit card on their site.

My wife and I were out of town and when we got back, I opened the refrigerator and all of my food had spoiled. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our refrigerator over the phone and they followed through. They told me exactly what to do and how to go about doing the claim, and everything fell right in place. The technician from GE Appliances came out and explained everything. He took off the back part, and he said that he couldn't fix it. The refrigerator had some burnt wires.

We were told who to call, and the people that we called wanted the model of the refrigerator including the length and the width so that the new one would fit right in the place where the other one that went bad was. The replacement took two weeks and the contractor that delivered the refrigerator was very helpful. We had to mostly eat out because we couldn't put anything in the refrigerator so we would just go to carry-out and try to make ends meet. Other than that, I was very satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield and I was telling a lot of my friends about them.

If I had any kind of a complaint, it would be that the online system for claim submission is not super versus over the phone. Submitting online is not necessarily very good because there's not enough criteria to necessarily cover everything. Still, I was able to file my claim for my clothes washer that quit working, which is good. It was also taken of very quickly and I'm very pleased. The contractor who came diagnosed the situation and ordered the parts then he was back as soon as the parts showed up. He fixed it in 10 or 15 minutes and he was excellent. That was great and the washer is performing perfectly. It's now doing everything it's supposed to do.

We filed a claim online to American Home Shield for our refrigerator. Their site was very user-friendly but then I was a little disappointed initially with the contractor who came to our home. He came, looked at the problem, told me that he had to order some stuff and left. Then, it took another couple of weeks to get the parts in. I had to purchase a second refrigerator in that timeframe. I felt like that was something they could have handled differently.

Though the tech fixed the refrigerator, it only worked for a couple of days, then went out again. Initially, the tech had said that the problem was due to frost as the refrigerator wasn't defrosting itself. He replaced the board, defrosted the fridge, and it started to work. But then, because the fan was frozen and was working so hard to try to circulate air, it ended up burning out too. So, I had to file a second claim and since the second repair, the refrigerator has been working well.

AHS's service and everything else was great. However, I was dissatisfied when they said that if they couldn't repair my refrigerator, they were going to replace it yet they weren't willing to replace what we had. They would replace it with whatever was available. We had a very expensive refrigerator so I told them that if they weren't gonna give us the same one, they should at least give us the same amount of money that we paid for the fridge we had or enough to get something similar.

Submitting claims and scheduling an appointment with American Home Shield were easy. Any time I've submitted requests, like for my pool, it has been taken care of very promptly and professionally. AHS uses Sears as one of their vendors and I always get them. They are extremely nice, but they never fix the issue on the first time they come out. My refrigerator has been out for over a month and a half right now, and Sears has been out here four times and they have a fifth time planned. In fact, every time AHS has sent Sears out here, it takes six to seven times before they ever fix the issue. I'm not happy about that. I finally had to yell at Sears and said the refrigerator has to be fixed by Thanksgiving. When they come back, it would be two months. I plan to submit claims for my refrigerator by phone and make sure AHS doesn't send Sears out. They have sent someone else a couple of times that took care of the issue the first time.

American Home Shield sent out someone to repair the dishwasher. The person came out and I'd never heard back from the person. I called AHS to find out the status and when the dishwasher was going to be fixed. They then told me that the claim was denied because their people said it was not installed correctly. That is not true 'cause the dishwasher was working perfectly fine for three years until it became damaged. There was a leak and it stopped working. I didn't know what I had because no one ever notified me of the denial. And no one was held responsible for who was gonna contact the customer to give the result. I have to reach out myself to find that out.

Now, AHS is saying that they can send somebody else out, but I have to pay another $100 service fee. That’s $200 altogether. With $200, I can buy a new dishwasher. I've recommended AHS to everybody and now, I'm one of those disappointed customers. They’re not even concerned about trying to help me for customer satisfaction. Instead of ending services with them, I would like for them to send somebody else for my dishwasher and waive the service fee or to use the service fee that I already paid for because now, I still have a dishwasher that doesn't work. And I've been paying my premium with AHS for well over a year.

I logged on to the American Home Shield website, submitted a claim and it's a user-friendly process. The website is helpful. I can return to it, see the claim status and its history. I got a response immediately that said that the contractor has been notified and they will contact me within 24 hours.

The contractor communicated when they were on their way. They came out to look at it and determined that the coil had cracked in several places. They removed that coil, took it back to the shop, brazed it, repaired it, came back and installed it. It worked fine, but then a day or so later, we noticed it started happening again, so they came right back out, and they found one other defect in a Schrader valve. They remedied that, and it’s been working fine ever since. They were polite, friendly and didn't leave a mess. I would recommend American Home Shield.

But there was this one time where I had a problem with one of the companies they send out for my air conditioner. The contractor misdiagnosed the AC and it took them four times to finally find and diagnose the problem.

It took several months for the claim to be completed because the first time they came out, they said the AC was leaking Freon. Initially, it cost me about $500 because a lot of the things that the contractor was doing wasn't actually the problem and AHS doesn't cover 100% of the Freon, so I had to pay for that. The company they subcontract didn't have their game together and not AHS. I had to finally ask AHS to not send that company back out here and instead to send someone else, and they said no problem. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the gas furnace in Munster, Indiana and I called because to me, that's a hot emergency. The contractor came yesterday to find out what the problem was and it was a gas valve. He's going back there today and I'm waiting for him to call, and he hasn’t been there yet. There's a cold weather outside plus it's a furnace. AHS needs to seriously start thinking about doing something drastically with their program, especially now that it's getting cold up in the Chicago land. AHS should be able to repair or do something within 24 to 48 hours especially with heat when it's cold out. They need to get more companies involved. They're doing the best they can, and that's not good on AHS's part that they're taking that long to get service. I'm sure there are people out there who would gladly join with them to do repairs.

To wait this long, it cost me to go out and get a heater to keep the house warm, and luckily we're in a condo that's sandwiched between two units. AHS should be watching the weather and when it's gonna go below freezing Thursday here in Chicago, they need to start saying, "Whoa, we got furnaces calls in. We better get them. Do we need to worry about anything else?" Things like that. AHS has to put the priorities intact. I'm glad that we were in 50-degree weather, but this could have been 25-degree weather, then it changes the whole perspective of repairs. We also had a hot water tank last January that they had to change out and asked within five days. Still, that was too long. I'm satisfied with my overall experience, and I would have felt more positive about it if they would have had a serviceman there within 24 hours.

They came in and did their thing. They were tidy, prompt and walked us through a little bit. Since the repairs, everything has been hunky-dory. However, we'd like to see a copy of an invoice, things that were covered or what has been done and performed, so we can keep that type of stuff for our records.

He had to come back out since all of it was not taken out and I was double charged, which I was told I won't be. I called Home Shield to get that straightened out and I haven’t had any bad problems with them, except I don’t like their call center at night. I get so many foreigners who can’t understand me and I can’t understand them, and then they get offended when I tell them I need to speak to an American. I don’t get taken care of and I learned not to call at night.

Recently, I flipped a switch in the house to get to the garage and it shut off the whole back half of the house, which is a major deal and it got taken care of speedier than the first time. I was told that because it was the garage, Home Shield wouldn’t cover it, but the garage is in the house. In the end, Tim (the contractor) came out, fixed it and it was great. He explained to me what was wrong and he got right to the problem. He was good and I liked him a lot.

Our waterline had a leak. We made a request for repair over the phone and submitting the claim with American Home Shield was easy. They sent out the contractor, Drain Masters. When the contractor came out after a day or two, we discussed the nature of the problem with them and showed them where it was. I appreciated their coming out and they did a good job. There have been no problems since they left. Having this warranty on our property helps a lot and I would recommend AHS.

I could not get the garage door to come down completely and stay down. I made a request to American Home Shield online and it was pretty easy to request the service. They charged the service fee online automatically and then the repairman called me that evening. It was after hours and they told me they would be by the next morning and they were. The tech was pretty efficient. He fixed it and he made some other adjustments while he was there. It was a good service. I would’ve used that company again.

I have three separate American Home Shield contracts. We have two homes with which we split our time between and I have a rental property. I have always been satisfied with the service that I get from them. One of the things that I pay for and get is the usually very timely response from their designated professional. It’s usually within 24 hours and then the set fee for the service call. They take care of it and if there’s anything to be negotiated or discussed with American Home Shield where AHS requires approval to repair or replace something, they’re the ones handling that on your behalf. It’s pretty beneficial for the consumer.

The master bedroom, the closet, and bathroom of our home were all 15 degrees hotter or 15 degrees cooler than the rest of the house. I wanted the air ducts checked out because I went under the house to see if something was disconnected and I didn’t see anything wrong. I used AHS for the first time and did my claim online. I got an email back the next day and within a week, a contractor came. He was nice and he checked it all out but he didn’t see any problems. He said a scoop needed to be put in but AHS doesn't cover that.

The only reason I got AHS was that it was included in the house I bought. But I can do all the work myself like putting in the scoop for the air conditioner, which I ended up doing myself. I would recommend AHS to people like my parents though who are older, especially now that they moved away from me. When I lived close to them, they just called me. I would go there and would usually fix whatever wa wrong.

When my washing machine was starting all by itself, I submitted my claim by phone, and it was fantastic that AHS was quickly able to get somebody out here to take care of everything. The technician was pleasant and helpful. He told me that if he could reset the panel properly, I wouldn't need a new panel. And if it didn't, I would have to get a new panel, which would have taken time. But he was able to reset the panel. He took the time to try and it worked, and the washing machine's been fine ever since. I've had two problems so far and in both times, the service people sent out by American Home Shield came at a good amount of time and they were both very helpful, friendly and cooperative.

One time, our garage door wouldn't open so I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor I got was fantastic. Not only did he get back on track, but he also fixed an alignment issue with the laser eye and greased the garage doors. I also had somebody out recently for plumbing. He was very good and he explained that the issue he addressed would not recreate itself fully. He also said that if something else came up within the next 60 days, the job would still be under warranty and that I should call him back.

However, the past summer, I also had a group that fixed an air-conditioner at my rental house and they dragged their heels. They took forever to get the work done. Even so, I needed them again for my heater and they were there the next day. Perhaps it was just the busy time of the season but then it took two weeks and I had loud renters. I bought a house before and they had a warranty under HMS and it was a brutal experience on our end. AHS totally has my business and I would never go back to that other company.

American Home Shield has been good to us. However, the latest job we had done was a real pain, as far as what AHS wanted to cover and what their air conditioning service people did. It was a harrowing experience. The AC stopped working and I quickly put in a work order, but the contractor never called me. AHS told me it would be within 24 hours and I waited 48 hours, then I called the contractor looking for an appointment. Then it took them an extra two days just to come to look at the initial problem, which they determined was a compressor.

American Home Shield called me and said that the compressor was in and that they would notify the contractor that it was in. The contractor didn’t call me Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I had to call them on Monday and say that the part was in. The contractor said that my air conditioner was out of code and I had to pay an extra $250 for that. They also said that I had to pay extra for the Freon, which I knew was in the contract. My neighbor is a code enforcement officer so I had him look and take pictures. He said that there was nothing out of code about it.

The contractor sent the guy on Saturday. They said between 9:00 and 5:00, but he didn’t get to me until 7:30 at night. Then he had to work at the house until nearly 10:00. He was a nice guy and he installed the compressor. I asked what he did to upgrade the system so it would come up to code. He tried to justify it, but being told that it was out of code when it was not, I was unhappy. I agreed to pay though and gave him the check. I had the AC looked at on Monday and was told that there was nothing done more than what was already there.

The tech put in some new wire, soldered new joints, and added stuff, but there were no code upgrades. He got the air conditioner working where we could live through Saturday and Sunday, but we saw immediately that the air conditioner was not keeping the temperature. It was 70 in the afternoon and it rose to 74. Last night, it rose to 78. The contractor sent somebody out yesterday who said it looked like everything was working right.

As soon as the tech left, during the heat of the afternoon, there was a 10 degree differential from the thermostat to what it was reading as far as indoor temperature was concerned. It took six hours after the sun went down to bring the temperature back down. My wife had surgery and we sat for two weeks without AC, but that didn’t hurry the contractor up. My AC is still not working and I’m $500 worse off.

The current break down. Been a member of AHS since 2010. In 2010 I had my ac system replaced. Paid the deductible and all was good. Since then I have had appliances fix with no problems - example washing machine, refrigerator, and microwave. Also complete hot water heater replacement. In all cases I paid my deductible and was a happy homeowner. Fast forward to 2018. I have a broken gas furnace that need to be replaced. AHS will replace but does not include modifications - for example connecting the existing gas line additional $140, duct modification $225, vent modification $250, disposal fee $75 and a permit fee $150. Totaling $840 out of my pocket. So I looked into the cash out option and they will give me $488 to replace the gas furnace and $300 of that is for labor. Quick math that means they can buy a gas furnace for $188. Crazy. As a homeowner you are better off saving your money. I would not recommend AHS.

My 8-month pregnant wife calls the service line and was told she would not be help for 48 hours and there was no one who could help her. When she explained she was PREGNANT and has suffered complications, therefore she would be unable to do anything physically, the representative responded "tough" and ended the call.

After my wife explained the situation I called back to get clarity as to why it would take 48 hours and to see if there was anything I could do to have it expedited as this is an emergency and a circumstance that requires immediate assistance. I explained my wife was pregnant and disabled due to pregnancy complications and asked politely could he direct me to a manager. He responded, "no" I explained to him maybe I was not conveying correctly the severity of the situation. Before I could finish my explanation he cut me off and said "Sir, I completely understand your situation. I've been there before and this is the best I can do."

Baffled and insulted by his comment I asked him his name (John) and gender (male) and how could he possibly been in my disabled 8-month pregnant wife's shoes and if he wasn't referring to her, he did not know our situation so how could he make such an insensitive comment. He responded "You gave me the highlights. I know what's going on and I won't help you any more than I have" and when I asked several times to speak to a manager he hung up.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD WITH ANY HUMAN BEING ON THIS EARTH. THE INSINCERITY, LACK OF EMPATHY, lack of emotional intelligence, and just plain rudeness of this company is unparalleled and disgraceful. *To add insult to injury no one ever showed. Then, they say I can do it online. I would if I could, but I can't sometimes because of my carrier. I got issues right now that I have to do and I just haven’t been able to get through them. But generally, when they get the claim, they send somebody out quickly. The contractor would also text us quickly that they’re gonna handle it, so that’s never a problem.

The repairs have been good, too. I've had contractors out for my icemaker and a few other things, as well as to the guest house, and all were done well. There was one air conditioning contractor I didn't care for, though. He didn’t wanna look at what I had going on during the winter because it was winter. I had a general air-conditioning/heating review done at my own expense and they identified some problems, but the guy they sent out wouldn’t look. I complained about it and I did not see him again. AHS sent somebody different the next time, but I still haven’t resolved that issue. Also, with our recent claim which was for the spring on the garage door that broke, we had to pay $75 to have them come out and service it, but we also had to pay for the spring ourselves since it was wear and tear and not a mechanical thing.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the rep I spoke with was fine. However, the people who came to fix it had problems. The first time, the contractors didn't replace the microwave bulb. After a while, I just gave up and forgot about it. I got too many other things to do than having to call them and have to hold on to the phone for a long time before you can get somebody to answer.

Recently, the contractor fixed the front burner that had a problem and the back burner started having the same kind of problem. So, I called again and they ordered parts. They never came back in while. I called them again and the technician came in but in the end, none of the lighters worked on my stove. They told me to replace it but they were only giving me $900. My stove is way more expensive so I haven’t found one that I can replace it with. They said it’s much more expensive to repair it that to replace it but for me, to replace it would be more expensive because the choices they gave me was not the same as what my stove is right now. It would be nice if they can just repair the stove that I have. It’s only a lighter problem and the stove works fine. You have to use matches or something else. They said that they would replace it, so I would assume they should be replacing what I have and not give me some choices that I have to choose from.

The contractors from AHS would come and try to fix things but you have to pay $100 anyway, and you can do that to any other technician that you call. Plus, you have to pay your monthly installment for the insurance. So, it doesn’t make sense when they don’t give you the same product that you have. You shouldn’t have to settle with something else when it's their turn to replace it.

Their reps were very helpful and accommodating, but I wasn't too satisfied with the company they used, Drain Go of Alabama. In the beginning, I called and asked them to call me and set up a time. The guy said that they didn't have to call and set up a time, but I thought that that couldn't be the case because I use American Home Shield for one of my rental properties and the latest time we had to file a claim, the contractor called in advance. The rep gave me false information and I explained to him that it was not accurate because I knew and I've used them before. The rep said that he was just doing what he was told to do, so we set it up for the next day.

I couldn't be there, but my wife was there. She let the tech do his thing and she walked out of the room. She came back upstairs, and he showed her what he did. He got the toilet straight, but he didn't do anything with the tub. It was getting clogged in the toilet and in the tub, so I figured it was the plumbing. I ended up buying a snake and I ran it. The tech was supposed to do it. They tried to set up another time, but we have a busy schedule, so I told them to forget it. The people that American Home Shield contracted out weren't the best at all, but still, I give two thumbs up for American Home Shield.

In the second call, he interacted with me and he was great the whole time. He took care of the issue and the washing machine worked fine after that.

But when I did laundry this last weekend, it was not advancing to the spin cycle again. The water drains but it doesn't spin to swing the water out. So I put in a second recall. But my machine is really old. It might simply be time to replace my machine. Nonetheless, we've not had any bad experiences with having American Home Shield as our home warranty provider and the guy from Gulf Appliance Repair was really good. I would definitely consider them for other things.

The cold season started and we turned on the furnace but the next morning, it wasn't working. I called American Home Shield's phone number and let them know what was happening. Then, a few days later, Abby's Heating and Cooling called us and we set up an appointment. The techs came and diagnosed the problem. They put a new piece in and everything worked well. It definitely got us through the month that we needed it. I'm very happy that we got AHS.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator. The contractor kept coming out to fix it and it wasn't being fixed. They couldn't find the part because it was a really old refrigerator so, we gave up. We ended up replacing the refrigerator after four months. Then, they went and reimbursed us for half the price, which was nice. The reps at AHS were very nice throughout the process and they tried to be helpful. AHS is very slow on fixing things but they're good.

We didn’t have heat so I called the number of AHS and worked with the member. They got with a contractor. However, it took about five days for the contractor to get to us, which I can understand. There was a cold spell. But all in all, we’ve been pleased with the professionalism of the contractors that American Home Shield uses. We’ve never had a really bad experience with them. We’ve had the warranty ever since we’ve moved into this home in 1996.

They changed contractors twice now that I’m aware of. Each time, the contractor was very knowledgeable of the type of repair they were performing. Everything was taken care of. The work was done in a timely manner and we have had no problems since the repair was made on the item they were repairing. I would recommend AHS. I would tell about the professionalism and politeness of the people that were sent. They were always very pleasant to work with.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the reps that I talked to took down what I said and called the proper people. Drain Masters was dispatched and it was a seamless transition from AHS to them - I did not have to do anything and I was kept well informed. Drain Masters replaced the water heater and did the valves. They took care of everything and now everything is good.

When a water blending valve in the shower wasn’t working, a guy from RK Plumbing came out and touched it with his magic hands. He fixed the issue in 15 minutes. The wait times for calls to American Home Shield are always awful -- it is a 30-minute wait and they always say, “Unusual call volume". So, I submitted the claim online. One of the nice things about American Home Shield's contractors is their use of the scheduling system. Whenever we submit a claim, we always get something from AHS saying that they have assigned a ticket. Within 24 hours, unless it is on a weekend, the contractors reach out and schedule. They give me either a two or four-hour window, and they show up during that window. They also call when they are getting close. They are confident and have their stuff together. I’ll be renewing next January.

Six weeks after I signed up for American Home Shield, my AC broke. I live in Florida and I need to have an AC unit. I called AHS and the tech showed up seven days after. He was a total jerk and in the end, he fixed it temporarily and had to order a part. He didn’t talk to me and told AHS that it was a preconditioned failure of the AC unit and AHS declined to pay for it. It was a disaster and I had to pay by myself. The second time, I submitted my claim online and it was almost easier than calling. The air conditioner was broken again. AHS sent a different company. The guy who came was totally professional and great. He figured out the issue really quickly. Now, the AC is running. If service can continue like that, then I may buy another year when my contract is over.

When we bought our house, the air conditioners were running and everything was working. Then, the first one crapped out and we had a guy come and tried to fix it five times but he couldn't get it. Then, AHS sent A-Plus Air Conditioning. The tech there was nice. He explained everything and showed me what was wrong with the air conditioner. He even replaced the part in front of me and he had the thing running. What impressed me so much was the guy said he's leaving the country and if it's a big job, he may not be able to help. But still, he opened his truck, got his tools and he came over and fixed the air conditioner. He then put everything back and left the country for vacation.

I told American Home Shield the kind of repairman he was. He just doesn't come and replace parts, he troubleshoots the whole thing by narrowing it down and he zeroes in on the part and fixes it. He was very skilled and efficient. And so when we called American Home Shield and asked for A-Plus again, they listened. We appreciate the help and they saved a lot of money. In closing, it's a hit and miss with the vendors, but with the first guy from A-Plus, he was good. He kept replacing parts till it got going.

The contractor called and told me what he was gonna do. He gave me a time frame as to how long it would take to fix the AC, and he did what he had to do. He did some cleaning and recharging work on it. He worked for two days and then, he came back out again to recheck it. This time, something else burned up so we had to get it replaced. The contractor was honest, very courteous and professional. If I'll have any problem down the road and needed some work done, I will definitely call him myself.

As for American Home Shield, I'm perfectly satisfied with all the service I got from them so far. My air conditioner was making some weird noises. I used the app to file a claim with AHS and I got a call back 30 hours later from somebody who'd be servicing the AC. Then the tech came out and identified the issue. He was also polite, professional, and kind of explained what was going on as well as what he needed to do. But he had to leave to go get the parts needed. Apparently, the AC needed a new fan motor and a mounting bracket which broke. That caused the fan to drop so it was broken as well. Then the tech came right back and he was able to resolve the issue that afternoon. The service was good and I was happy with it. The whole process took a few hours and my experience was super easy and very seamless. Overall, anytime I’ve used American Home Shield, it has always been a pretty simple process. It’s also super transparent so I know what I can or can't use them for, and I know what to expect when I need them.

The pool filter stopped running and the contractor that AHS sent was also the one who installed the last pump and he said that the pump was shot because a part wasn't sealed on it. The guy was a nice enough fellow and he had been out here before, but if he had sealed it nicely the first time, it wouldn't have burned out because of water getting in from a rainstorm. He then said that it was not covered. We had him replace it and paid for it out of pocket.

I was surprised that it was a rebuilt one and I could have a rebuilt pump through my pool guy. He would've put it in if it has no connection to American Home Shield or any reimbursement. Other than that, whenever I call to submit a claim and talk to AHS' people, they are always very helpful. If the claim is something that's easily answered, I just click on the right things online, and in this recent case, it was like, "What's wrong? Pool pump" then I hit the button and that was it. The claims submission process was very easy.

AHS' response was always pretty quick. We had to wait a couple of days for the pool claim but it wasn't anything that caused any problems. The pool was turned off but if it happened in the middle of summer, a pool could get green pretty quick if things weren't being cleaned because of the heat. We've had AHS for years and it always feels good to have that coverage.

We submit claims with American Home Shield online for the ease of it. Their website is easygoing. I just thought there should be a little bit more explanation or if we could get to choose. But it was really nice to have AHS online, so I do appreciate that. If something happens 10:00 at night, we still can get online. We feel like we're able to, at least, submit a claim, then we get an email or a text right away saying that it has been submitted, and I like that.

The techs who came to our home have been fine. I was really impressed with On Time Plumbing & Heating. They came in and they had little booties they put on. They were very respectful, very polite, communicated every step, which I loved. They explained each step and I appreciated that. Even though I may know what that part was called, they at least attempted to explain what they were doing. I was well-informed.

We have a pending claim with AHS as they still haven't fixed my stove. They've replaced most of its parts and have ordered another part, but I haven't heard back from the contractor, Josh's Appliance. That's been a couple of weeks ago and this whole thing has been going on for three months. My stressor is Thanksgiving is coming up, and I've been in the house for three months, and I still have no stove to be able to even know if it's gonna work. I was given Josh's company until Friday. If we won’t hear from him by Friday, then I’m gonna call and make a complaint. I don't wanna dog on the contractor yet 'cause it may be something out of his control. Other than that, I've had no problems with any communication with AHS.

We had a plumbing issue and the contractor, Durango of Alabama, did a good job of explaining what was going on. The first time, I wasn’t there and they talked to my daughter. So, that one didn’t go so well. There was a lot of confusion as to what they thought the issue was. But on the follow-up visit, we were able to get some answers and see exactly what needed to happen. We found out that it wasn’t necessarily a plumbing issue. It was water getting under the tub because of not having proper sealing. They did a good job of pointing that out and showing me what they needed to do and where the water was getting through.

I had a problem with my dishwasher. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The user interface is fairly simple but could use some adjustments. The technician that came out was hilarious. He was a good guy too. He also made a special time to come out for me because of my work schedule. He found out what the problem was when he came out, then he went back, ordered the parts, came back out and fixed it. It took about a week from the time he got here. I tried using it the next day but it didn’t work right so I called them back. They came back out, looked at it again and ordered the parts. But I was going out of town that weekend so the part came in a few days after I got back then he came back out and fixed it. Everything is working fine since then.

One time, I had a problem with my refrigerator and it took quite some time to be able to get it fixed. AHS sent the same technician back out six times. He wasn’t able to fix it. He said he was gonna get some parts. It wound up being eight months later and he still hadn’t contacted me back. Then they had to send somebody else out and it took them a month to go through their rigmarole. I told American Home Shield that I don’t want to deal with that company again. I have had a few difficulties here and there with AHS but nothing that I wouldn’t recommend the company to somebody else.
