I was having electrical issues and it shorted in the switches. My light wasn't coming on. When I submit a claim with American Home Shield, I like to call in as I like to speak with a person. I've received excellent service from their customer service and I've been very happy with them. I get immediate action. When a contractor is assigned to me, they always contact me within the timeframe that is alloted. The contractor AHS sent to replace the switches was very professional and courteous. He answered all of my questions that I had in detail. It was so excellent. I'm very satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield.

Initially I thought I had a problem with plumbing so AHS sent a plumber out and he diagnosed the problem. But it turned out to be the air condition. AHS, in turn, scheduled an air condition repair so my problem was taken care of. The reps of AHS were very polite and professional. Both of the contractors I dealt with were also top-notch. They got the job done much faster. They diagnosed it quickly and professionally. I would recommend AHS. It's the greatest way to go. You never know when you're gonna have a major or a minor issue in your home and AHS tend to get people out in a decent amount of time. So AHS is something good to have.

The day that I called American Home Shield for the washer claim, I knew exactly what was wrong. The seal at the boot of the washer is called the door boot and I could see that there was a tear in it. American Home Shield said they just had to send the tech out and the tech from Apex TV and Appliances showed up a week later. He confirmed that the problem was the door boot. That was what I had said and I was hoping he brought the parts. But apparently, they were just there to assess things. It took three weeks for them to get the boot in and they wouldn’t schedule my appointment to install it until they had it in stock. Then once they finally got it in, they scheduled my appointment for another week out. So we were going on four weeks without a washer.
The tech showed up but the part that they ordered was ripped. I was like, “You're freaking kidding me.” He went back to the shop and ordered another one. The next day, I called the shop. I said another one is on order and I asked if they could at least get me on the schedule. But they told me they had to wait until the part was in stock. It was ridiculous. So I went on another week without a washer. I had been to the laundromat twice and I spent about 50 bucks because we're a family of six. I probably did 15 loads in two visits. Finally, I called the executive office because I knew something was amiss and I got a really great lady on the phone. She apologized profusely and said, “Let me call you back in 10 minutes.” In 10 minutes, she had approval for us to just get a new washer altogether because we had dealt with that silliness for so long.
Apex was horrible and they shouldn’t even be on American Home Shield’s list of contractors. The company was not proactive to communicate or do anything other than say, “No, we have to wait ‘til the part comes in and then we'll call you.” So they sucked. In fact, whether it was American Home Shield or the contractors, the people I dealt with were not as proactive as I had hoped. So I would tell others to stay on top of the situation and write down the names of everyone they’re dealing with. American Home Shield came through in the end though. It was a long five weeks but I got a new washer and that’s sort of cool. It was sort of worth the hassle.
I had one incident with the dryer before and the people who came out took care of things and fixed it on the spot. They were on their way within a couple of hours. So that was a good experience. We also had an issue with our refrigerator and the contractor then worked it out very well too. The technician said that he happened to have to the parts on the truck, took care of the ice maker and replaced it. He was here a little longer than he expected but no one was at fault. It was just a matter of making sure the repair was done completely. So overall, the experience was three out of three.

One of my taps from the outside which is for the garden hose was leaking. I submitted a claim online and the contractor American Home Shield gave us was professional. They checked everything and did everything. They also told me all the stuff, what may be wrong with this and how should I deal with it during the wintertime with all the cold air. They changed all the parts from sink connected to the house and to the outside. Then, they stayed to see that it was not dripping again. They did a great job.
However, I had an issue with my previous claim which was for a garbage disposal. The technician tried to call me. I called him back and left a message, but he never called me. Then AHS took the 100 bucks before he even came so it made me upset. I called their service and talked to them, but they told me that they cannot refund me once it's been charged. The claim took a while, but the technician came eventually and fixed it. Overall, American Home Shield has a good service. I just wish they have an app where I can log in to my account and see everything instead of going to the website and remembering all the passwords. It would make my life a lot easier.

The plugs for our bath were sticking. So, I made a claim with American Home Shield. The guys that they sent were great and they were able to get the issue taken care of. There is a different problem with the bath where sometimes it starts to drain and we have to wiggle the lever a little bit to get it to properly seal. But they said that fixing that would mean replacing the whole plumbing system.

American Home Shield has been great and their representatives have been good. We had a few hiccups with the contractors locally, but High 5 Plumbing, the one who recently came out, was incredible. We had an issue with the brand new sewer draining. It turned out that it wasn’t covered under American Home Shield. That was uninstalled. We had an internal vent on the sump pump in the basement but not one that goes through the ceiling, and that was specifically excluded but we had a faulty toilet which they replaced. The toilets are all draining now.

I had an electrical work that needed to be done. I submitted a claim with AHS on their website as I would love to not have to talk to somebody and the tech who came out was great. His name was Matt and he was with State Electric. We had him before for some other electrical works, so I was very pleased that we got the same person back again.
There was a fixture above the staircase that was not working. It would work occasionally then it would stop working and we didn't know why. He fixed to shorten it and he did something else that helped the situation. We also had an outdoor fixture that was not working and I noticed that that fixture didn't match our other ones. American Home Shield covered the broken fixture but I paid him to replace the other two so all three would match each other and that worked out really nicely. Everything works good now and it is nice especially now that with Daylight Savings Time, it's darker in the morning so I use the staircase all the time in the mornings. Other than that, I've had bad experiences with American Home Shield in the past. I used to live in an area where they could never find the contractors and I hated them.

The washing machine read an error message. When I looked in the user manual, it gave me steps to do and the error message didn’t go away. If the error message wouldn't go away, then there was something wrong with the washing machine so I called American Home Shield to have a repair person come by and take a look at it. The gentleman came out the same day. He laid a mat down and covered his shoes before he came into the house and explained what he was going to be doing. After he looked at the washing machine, he explained what the possible problem was and he ordered parts as he didn’t have the parts from my machine available.
He got the parts a couple of days later. When he went to replace those parts and opened up the drum, he saw that it was a larger issue where the metal was disintegrating on the inside of the drum. So he said that I needed a new washing machine. AHS gave me a few choices to choose from a list of washing machines or I could request a check and buy a different type of washing machine. So, I took a check and bought a different washing machine then paid out of pocket for the difference. However, I would’ve liked that I would’ve gotten pretty close to the amount of what I paid for on the washing machine just because the washing machine that I replaced wasn’t an inexpensive one. But overall, I understand them. I’m assuming they do what like they do with cars and do depreciation.

There is a motor that turns the ice maker and it was broken. I looked at the policy and when I called American Home Shield, the rep provided me with the name of the company who would come. The contractor was very good and professional. He knew what he was doing and understood what was going on. He took the door apart and explained to me what happened to the motor. He put in a new one and it works fine now. It didn’t take him long and since then, it seems good. AHS provided great customer service and a quick response.

My first experience with American Home Shield was very satisfactory when I had a leak on the floor where my old water heater was. The contractor discovered that it was the heater and within a few days, I got the brand-new one. That was a positive experience but I had a very unsatisfactory one with the refrigerator which was already here when I bought the house. The rubber around the door fell out and I called the vendor, Bill’s Electric. They promptly sent somebody out and it took two weeks to order the rubber. Then, within a few days, I noticed that it started to fall out again. They had to order another rubber and I waited again for two weeks for it to come in. So far, the rubber hasn’t fallen off.
The refrigerator is old and it’s going to run into some kind of problem. At this time, it’s not interfering with my use but it’s a below-average functioning refrigerator. It would have been simple and worthwhile to me if they just replaced it because it was a small one that cost $400 in any of our stores. So, that was disappointing. I got information that AHS was good with replacing big items but this is a small item and that was not sensible to me. That kind of problem is going to be a reoccurring problem. Maybe not the door rubber but other things because it’s a very old refrigerator. Nevertheless, the technicians from Bill’s were great and very professional. They were young and knowledgeable.
I recommended AHS when I had a client whose heater went out and I shared my experience. However, I’m contemplating cancelling the service because I want the best service. Also, I could buy the refrigerator myself and save my monthly payments. I’ve tried to let the disappointment pass and hopefully, my mind will change. If I was a business owner running the business, I would think in those terms and as to what can prevent future problems. American Home Shield should value what a customer has to say because I’m not overusing the services. I would not call unless I really need it. I’ve had other calls and visits, and it was not problematic, which was okay. I don’t have a problem paying my share of cost when they come out but this was a refrigerator that is falling apart. It was not handled in a practical and customer service method.

The AC quit working. The breaker on it decided it only wanted to go about 110 instead of going at 220 like it's supposed to and there was something on the unit that was out. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and they sent out Fahrenheit Solutions LLC. My mom dealt with them when they came out and she was more than pleased with them. For a 75-year old woman to say she was happy with somebody, that says a lot. After the repair, everything has been fine with the AC. Fahrenheit also called back to make sure everything was okay and I couldn't ask that from anybody else. Normally, other contractors would come and do the service then you're on your own. Aside from that, the customer service I received from AHS was excellent and I was totally pleased with them. Every time I needed them, they've been there for me.

I made two claims with American Home Shield over the phone about at the same time--one was for a plumbing issue when I had a stoppage and the other one was for a heating and air conditioning system that broke down and needed to be replaced. It was easy to file the claims but it was hard to get someone to do the jobs. It wasn’t as bad for the plumbing issue, though. I didn’t know somebody was coming until the people that were contacted called me and told me that they were on their way to help me with the plumbing problem.
As far as the air conditioning and heating issue, I had started the claim back in May and to this date, I still don’t have the problem solved. AHS had one gentleman, who was not from this area, come one day and I never heard from him again. Then they contacted someone else that wasn’t really from this area either and the contractor never showed. Finally, the third people that were contacted came. They’ve put in their work order for the new unit and it took weeks for that to be processed. I then received a call and I was told that there were some fees that were not included. About $1,300 more was what was needed for the job to be done and so I agreed to that.
Weeks went by again and then finally, out of the blue, I got a text saying that someone was on their way to remove my old unit. They came and removed my old unit and then weeks went by again before I got a text saying that the contractors were on their way with my new unit. Now, my new unit is sitting out there and it is not installed at all. I was also told that the contractor had to order some parts and they had to re-do some things.
I went all summer with no air. We’re now going into November and I have no heat, so I am not pleased. I stopped paying American Home Shield because I'm not getting the service. I feel, though, that they would be obligated to finish this particular job because this job has started before I stopped paying them. I am very dissatisfied with AHS and would tell others not to go with them.
Good morning Ms. White,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have your air conditioner now heating system repaired. I would be glad o speak with you and get the issue resolved.

American Home Shield is a fabulous company and I think they're the best. I've talked to other people who have other services and there’s not a huge difference in how they describe what they get done versus what I get. But I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and I'm gonna stick with them because they deserve the premiums that I'm paying. They have really stepped up in my case.
They've been spot on since the very beginning. You call into their 800 number and they're right on the dot as far as getting something going and finding the local contractor that is gonna handle that given item. That happens immediately. That time varies but it's quicker than you might expect. If you just call the contractors, it could take a week. But in this case, they're there. If it's daytime, I get a call from the contractor within hours. They make an appointment when you are able to see them. That is anywhere from one to three days, depending upon what's wrong. If we have a washing machine, a dryer or something in our pool, we would want to get it fixed quicker. If it's something in the furnace, that's important in the cold months. When I had an issue with the heating element of our clothes dryer, the claim was handled really quickly and well. I've never had any delays with American Home Shield.
They have also never failed to have somebody really good as a part of their organization of being an independent contractor. Their swimming pool contractor is a fellow from Minneapolis and he's done a very good job. He's been great. This Omega company that worked on our dryer has also been out here a couple of times and they're really good too. I've never had a problem where somebody’s come in and they've been a dunce. They all know their craft really well and they're excellent at troubleshooting. If you don't get American Home Shield, you're stupid.

People should definitely purchase a home warranty program. I’ve had American Home Shield on two separate homes and my wife and I think it’s a good thing to have. When I called an AC claim in, everybody on American Home Shield's end was fine. They called me back in a timely fashion. But we thought there was a failure in the inside coils. Once we replaced the entire unit though, we found out the actual cause. It was from my roofers.
I just had a brand new roof put on my home and the decking was weak. The main supply line for the Freon was bent and directed to the inside unit right under that decking. So when the roofers stepped on where the decking was weak, the main supply line broke and cracked. So I could have just replaced the little pipe instead of spending about $10,000. But it would have been hard for anyone to find that issue until you went to pressurize the system. When the contractor couldn’t get the brand new unit to pressurize, they had to investigate further. Nonetheless, that company as a whole was super easy to work with. They were very friendly and the owner was great over the phone.
Hello, Harley. You are correct, it would have taken many trips for someone to have pinpointed that leak under the decking of the roof. Thank you for your positive feedback! We are so pleased to know that you have used on us multiple properties.

My dryer wasn't working and the guy AHS sent said it was the door latch that was preventing the dryer to turn on. He said he had to replace that. I called in and they took down all my information, and then I had to go online and do something briefly. They gave me a time frame that the other folks are gonna call me. It was anywhere from 24 to 48 hours, and they did call within the time frame. They had to schedule an appointment for the following week because I called towards the end of the week. But it was pretty quick. The contractor was very polite. He came in and fixed it. I was also kinda impressed because he pulled my dryer out and he cleaned around it as well. I've been a client of AHS for a year and a half or and I never had to use them. This is the first time. If I have any other issues, I would give them a call.

When submitting a claim online, you get an email where American Home Shield says the contractor will contact you within 24 hours, but that doesn’t happen. Premier Pools was the only one that was right on it. There was no pressure in the filter so they came out and they needed a new pump on it. They did that and they were great. The ones that came for the air conditioner were really good but they took a week and a half. And I’ve been waiting since Friday morning to see if the plumber ever calls or shows up, or if American Home Shield ever calls back. I've already done a bunch of research to get a different company when the contract is up.

On the phone, you have to hold and wait for somebody to come on the line, which takes a while sometimes. AHS's website's navigation was easy and it was simple to follow the instructions. The tech was very professional. But, he should park in front of the house and not in the driveway. There are times when he was interfering with the other members of the family entering and exiting our home. He took care of the issue though and I was very pleased with the outcome. He also recommended us having a service contract with his company so that they can come out twice a year just to keep the unit running and that was what we agreed to.
Before that, we had a claim for our sprayer on the tap and we were very disappointed with our experience. We never got the problem fixed and I had to go and get a local contractor to come and fix the problem. The guy that AHS sent out was not knowledgeable at all and didn’t know what he was doing. But the contractor that I got looked at it and said that it's a Moen. He said that it’s warrantied for life and gave us the telephone number to call. They haven't done the repair, however, because AHS said they wouldn’t cover it if it was natural wear and tear of the wire inside the walls -- I don’t wanna roll the dice with them. Also, there was one contractor that never showed up and jerked us around for three or four days. So, we had to request another one on a Friday. American Home Shield has a scam going on with the contractors. I had someone who came to look at my water heater. Based on my policy, replacement of the water heater, insulation cost and removal is covered. The company APC plumbing quoted $619 for modifications (waterline modification $159, T&P mod $135, vent mod $125, water valve mod $125 and gas line mod $75). All the lines and vent are all up to code. I confirmed through multiple other plumbing companies, these modifications are not required since the same type of water heater will be installed. APC plumbing also lied and wanted to charge a disposal fee even though that is covered under the policy. The contractor is trying to scam me in order to make up for the difference from American Home Shield. I don’t want a dishonest company to complete the work. The company indicated $749 to replace the water heater.
Based on American Home Shield, I can either have the dishonest company complete the work, or they would give me a cash in lieu. The amount of a cash in lieu is only $462.48. This is not enough to cover any reasonable replacement cost with any licensed (honest) plumber. This is not even enough to cover the cost of just a cheap water heater.

Said the plumbing will detach again but nothing he could do and left.
Cool just spent $75 to be told everything that is wrong. Nothing was fixed and in our contract it’s covered. Called AHS. Where do I begin? We have yet to receive an official contract so we are at AHS' mercy to rely on what they say is covered and what's not covered. When I call on a Thursday with an emergency plumbing situation, I expect the issue to be dealt with pretty quickly, NOT to be told that the plumber cannot make it for another 4.5 days. Furthermore, I don't expect to call back and request it to be expedited to be told "That is not possible. The plumber is responding within our guidelines." WHAT ABOUT EMERGENCIES?
When the toilet overflows for the 3rd time the following day (Day #2) with dirty, brown water, and we call back to request AGAIN an emergency situation... I do not think it's acceptable to once again refuse to expedite the service. At this point, not only has the situation has become a health code violation, but our floors are ruined because of AHS' negligence. When one of AHS' customer service reps FINALLY agrees to expedite the service late on Day #2, and tells us she will call us back within 30 minutes with the new plumber's contact info, it's unacceptable to NEVER hear back from her.
When we call the morning of Day #3 to once again request the service be expedited, it is not acceptable to be told that the previous night's customer service rep in fact DIDN'T expedite the service. Luckily the customer service rep at this point agreed to expedite the service for the following day. So now we are sitting at Day #4, ruined floors, unusable plumbing throughout the entire house, and brown dirty water everywhere. The plumber who came out was GREAT. Unfortunately, he was unable to correct the problem.
On Day #5 (today), we were supposed to hear back from AHS, and OF COURSE, we haven't heard back from ANYONE. Luckily the plumber has more intellect and knows what good customer service is because he was able to answer the phone today. No, our problem is not solved. No, we still cannot use any of the plumbing in our house. Yes, our floors are ruined because AHS neglected to send out a plumber for an emergency until the 4th call we made to them. Yes, we are dealing with a health code violation because of AHS' neglect and unconcern for their customers. And none of this mentions the fact that other than Day #3, we were on hold on the phone waiting on someone to answer for anywhere between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. AHS clearly does not care for their customers. This is BY FAR the WORST home warranty company I've ever had.

I paid over $600 dollars for a yearly contract. When I needed them to fix my AC, they told me they don't have an AC company in my area. So I had to pay out of pocket and wait to get reimbursed. I was reimbursed 3 weeks later and was shorted $75... Out of curiosity, I called to report a plumbing issue and was told they don't have a plumber in my area. I called about a garage door, garbage disposal and refrigerator... NOBODY IN MY AREA FOR ANYTHING. They just sell you this false sense of security and when you try to use what you paid for, they send you on a hamster wheel of frustration, lies and excuses!!!

Took off work two times only for the service to not show and then on the second time call to cancel at the end of the day. Don't waste your money. The contractors that are used are incompetent and don't care about doing quality work.

We bought the house in April and the first claim we made was to do some change of lock in the house. Recently, my dishwasher wouldn’t work. Because I didn’t want to have the contractor do two trips, I diagnosed the issue with them on the phone and they agreed with me. They wanted to come out within a week, but because I couldn’t meet that schedule, I delayed them ten days. When the guy came, he brought out the new processor board, and sure enough, that was the problem. The contractors for both claims were very professional and I’m satisfied with Home Shield's service. It's worth the money that we spend on if you go by peace of mind.

I've had American Home Shield since 2012 when I got the house and when I make a claim, they send it right away to companies but it’s hard to go further. They sent out a technician for my furnace and he tried, but he never fixed it. I was sent another one who tried and did not fix it as well. The techs are good and they speak professionally, but the job could be better or maybe they did their best. AHS is very good too but if the technician tells me the furnace needs to be changed and they refuse it, it’s complicated at that point. AHS always says they feel bad for me, but they never changed my furnace at home. Warranty companies don’t wanna deal with that ‘cause it’s not cheap.

I had AC issues so I submitted a claim to AHS online which was pretty easy. But no one responded for a week so I had to call them. I made two phone calls and the first rep had no urgency. But the second rep helped me out really well and she made it really easy. The contractor came out four days later and the guy was pretty nice.
My neighbor who does AC had already told me what the issue was. It's just that I already have this warranty so I said I would have them fix it and let them do it. When the guy came out, he said that I just needed Freon, which I knew I didn’t. He also said I needed a drip pan because it was leaking through my garage. That was the reason why I noticed it because my whole wall was all just black. I thought it was mold, but it was water leaking and he said he had to order that part. He said he ordered it, but I had to call them a couple times to see what was taking so long because they said that the maintenance company that I’m with had to approve it and it took a really long time.
My neighbor already said that the drip pan was leaking, but that wasn’t the situation. It was something wrong with the coil. When I called warranty program trying to figure out what was delayed and waiting for approval, it was already a week into waiting. It was approved that Wednesday and it had been more than a week by the time they came out. But they said that they would have to charge me $60 for a pound of Freon. I needed four pounds of Freon and a drip pan but the warranty was one to only cover the drip pan. I know I had enough Freon in there because they came out before and they put Freon in it and the guy said I only needed less than a pound. That was a month before. So I didn’t go with the service because I believe that they were trying to milk me for my money. I hate to say that. I just self-paid.
Also, I have a Trane unit, so I only have to be able to buy Trane because they only work with that brand. The amount that AHS charged me for that coil brand new from Trane was the amount of a new unit like a Carrier or a Goodman unit, so I just told them to replace my whole air handler, which was cheaper than just trying to buy a Trane uni. I got tired with a headache when I was with the warranty program. I felt that I was being dragged along and it was like I call patchwork. I’ve been with them for a couple of months. They got a lot of money out of me, but I still didn’t get the service that I needed.

The air was not working and Central Virginia Heating and Air Conditioning came out for it. Navigating through American Home Shield's website was easy and the contractors were here the next day. The young fellow was David and he was very helpful. A mouse had crawled into the air conditioner and he zapped it. Then as he was checking, he found out the AC was low on Freon, so that was an additional problem that we weren’t aware of. We had issues with our furnace too, and the same guy worked on it. I've recommended AHS to my friend in Arlington, and she’s used it and she loves it.

He was telling me all kinds of things to avoid doing it, and I was very unsatisfied. But with the second person that came out, he did a job well done. I like AHS so much and I made my mother sign up with them. But when she put a claim in for her sinks because they were leaking, she ended up cancelling with them because they never fixed the job. Initially, they said they were gonna order her parts. But when she finally called up and asked when were they coming to fix the problem, they said that they were not gonna fix it. So, I was embarrassed with myself because I told her to go with them.
Aside from that, when I had an issue with the pop-up cleaners in my pool, AHS didn't cover the repair. They sent out Aaron Pools and I had to pay out of pocket to have it fixed. They said it wasn’t a plumbing issue but I believe it was. I just didn’t wanna argue and complain. I needed to get it fixed, so I paid Aaron Pools for that. They were great. Other than that, every time I used AHS, it worked out good for me. When I had a couple of leaky pipes inside the house, AHS covered the repair with no problem. I call them when I have claims and I like to verbally talk to people. But the wait time to talk to somebody takes over a half hour. Still, the people that they use are phenomenal. The contractors that they sent out were very professional and clean. They came in, did their work, and left.

I've been with American Home Shield for 18 years and I've had my good and bad experiences with them. I tried to cancel it once because of an AC claim problem. The contractor told me that I had to change the whole unit and that it was $6,000. I told them I have American Home Shield and they said that was why they were giving me a $1,000 discount. At that time, I was going through a lot of emotional things because my daughter had passed. I was desperate. I just needed something to work because it was way too hot. I told them to go ahead and do it. But I didn't see the point of paying every single month for the warranty and then when I need them, I have to pay that much money on my own.
I called American Home Shield to cancel but they didn't know what had happened. They asked me what I was talking about. Apparently, the contractor told them that they had fixed the unit. But at that point, it had been three months so they couldn't do anything anymore. They told me that next time, I need to call them before. When I started having problems with the second AC unit, I called American Home Shield. The contractor was charging me $9,000. There was no way I was gonna do it. So I wanted to go ahead and find somebody else with a better deal.
American Home Shield told me to go ahead and do it and when I do it, to let them know and to send a receipt. That was what I did. They said they were gonna send me a check only for the repair, not for the whole unit. But I've been waiting for a month and a half. I'm gonna do my numbers and see if it's worth it for me to keep paying this warranty. I had to replace the water heater as well. American Home Shield sent me LGD Plumbing and they charged me too. I paid $750 from my pocket because they had to upgrade all the connections. But it was good. They came and put the new unit in, and it looks like it's working perfectly. I'm happy with that company.

I’m not really computer savvy but I was able to file the claim when I called it in so it was fairly easy. I spoke with a representative who was knowledgeable and nice. And it was not long at all before they got me set up with Comfort First Heating & Cooling. The contractor came out, introduced himself and was efficient. When he looked at the air conditioning, he looked at the unit outside and inside. Then they had to order parts. Getting everything set did not take long either. It was about a week and I was happy with the service. Everything’s great.

American Home Shield is good when it comes to taking care of business. I call them when I have to submit a claim and they are very thorough. I had an issue and they resolved the job. However, the company that they sent out, Total Air Care, was horrible. I don’t know if the tech was trying to get me to buy a new AC, but it seemed very shady. He was terrible and He installed a compressor and he put the wires on backwards and then he didn’t put in another important piece of the AC. I was very upset about that. Then I called another company, Air Doctor, and I told American Home Shield about it. At that time, I didn’t know if I could ask someone else to come out. But once we got it all situated, American Home Shield clarified it for me. They let me know that I could have asked them to send another company, so it was just a little disconnection. The biggest issue was Total Air Care.
Air Doctor came out and checked the work that Total Air Care had messed up. They eventually were able to fix the problem and I didn’t have to pay for anything else. When one owns a home, they should have a home warranty because it saves us so much money. American Home Shield itself is a great company and the warranty is awesome. I’ve dealt with them with two homes and they have done very well. I wouldn’t trade American Home Shield for anything. I never had an issue with them except for that with Total Air Care. But American Home Shield really has to vet these contractors before they stamp on what these companies do. Still, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

It was working by the time they left and haven't had a problem since.
I had an issue with a different vendor, Platinum Services, but that was not Home Shield's responsibility. There was a leak in the dishwasher, and the guy from Platinum Services didn't even test it before he left. I asked, "Do you wanna test it?" and he said, "Nope, gotta go. Just call me back and I'll come right back if there's a problem." And immediately, it started leaking, but I found the leak and fixed it myself. Outside of that, it's been a really great experience overall. I have recommended American Home Shield to friends.

The whole thing worked out well.
The home warranty is a great service. I go online and submit a claim. It's easy. The only challenge is that sometimes you have two issues that are different types so it sucks that I have to pay the fee twice. But I understand that different vendors are coming so that's fine. On the other hand, I got an email once saying that I had not paid the service fee. But I paid both times on the same credit card. I stopped getting those emails though, so maybe those were spam or accident.
The contractors I had dealt with were all great too. My one takeaway is that when using a home warranty, you get way better service. When there was one thing that wasn't covered on the home warranty, I tried to get an outside vendor in to look at it and he was super rude. So I thought I would definitely always use the service through the home warranty. What I like is that the contractors don't just come and look at the problem. They explain everything to me and help explain what I can do to make sure something stays fixed and doesn't break again. All of that has been very helpful. I'm a new homeowner so it's great to get that sort of additional information.
The dishwasher guy particularly was super cool. We didn't want to use the dishwasher because we thought that when it runs for an hour, it uses new water the whole time. He explained that it doesn't actually use new water. It fills up once and then it recycles and pumps the water through the whole time. So we wouldn't have to worry about wasting water and that was very helpful.

Also, I like that they text message me almost immediately that they got it, and then they tell me who's gonna call me within 24 hours and when I should expect their call with their phone number. They send the company that they're gonna be using right away, too.
The contractors have all been fine. So far, it's slightly frustrating that they can't make repairs right away because they have to get approval from American Home Shield. But I grasp that it's because of the parts and things of that nature. Also, the Freon is expensive and American Home Shield doesn’t pay for it. And I think they need to make that a little bit more clear on their information. I had two air conditioning units go out last summer and if I had to pay for that out of my own pocket, it'd be about $16,000 versus American Home Shield. I just had to pay more because of the Freon.
One time, I was hoping that they would tell me that my dishwasher was terrible, and they weren't gonna be able to fix it, and they would give me $150 for it. But American Home Shield fixed it. And a lot of times, they're fixing the older appliances that are actually better made. Other than that, I've been very happy with American Home Shield. I tell other people about them. There are just little tricky things, but I'm not giving them up.

I had a plumbing issue which was related to the well pump. It was an emergency since I had water from the well in my home. I submitted a claim with AHS through the internet and the next morning, I called them to explain the problem. The rep I talked to was helpful and under understood the problem. Within half an hour, I got an approval in order to move forward, hire some contractor directly, and get reimbursed. Spry Plumbing & Heating came out to fix the problem. Then I sent back a receipt to AHS with some information and the approval number that was provided to me. I did it by email and I got the check at home by mail. The customer service at that time was good. Every single time that I call in, I got an answer and a solution.
On October 18, I also had an issue with my heating system. I went to the AHS portal and the first thing that called my attention there was that it was showing that I have a $100 overdue fee pending. So I called in then someone explained that it was a mistake and that AHS double charged me for the last service. He told me not to worry and that I should open a ticket for that. He also said that they would be cleaning it up and the financial department would confirm it. So, I opened a claim for the furnace through a call since I was not able to open one using the portal due to the pending issue there. Two days after, I was able to contact the provider. A guy visited my home, said that I had a problem with the motherboard, and that they had to replace it. I agreed and he said that he would get the parts and would be here the next day.
But to my surprise, there was another guy who arrived at home the next day. I was expecting to see the guy that was supposed to fix it and it seemed that this other guy did not have any idea about what was happening. He didn’t know the diagnosis. He said that I had a gas leak here in the wall and that he needed to replace it. I told him that it sounded a little weird to me because someone just came here the day before and said it was a motherboard, now he was saying that I have gas leaking. But he was the expert. I was just worried about the gas leak and how long it would take to fix that.
I called AHS right after that second visit as I didn’t understand what was happening because it was a completely different diagnosis. I asked if I could have a second opinion but the person I talked to convince me that it would take more time if we decide to do that instead of just understanding and waiting for the current provider. I agreed, but now, it has been more than two weeks and I still don’t have a solution.
Since then, I kept calling AHS every single day. First, they said that the part would take about a week to be here. So last week I called in and told them that I got the part, but it was the wrong one. So, I needed to order another one. The part was supposed to arrive last Friday and the contractor was supposed to call me yesterday to go back home and fix it. But they didn’t. I called AHS again yesterday and they said that the part was there. They also said that the contractor would call me soon in order to schedule the visit but right now, nobody called me. So, I’m still without heating and I don’t know when I'd have it back. All in all, I had four experiences with American Home Shield and all the other three were excellent. But unfortunately, this one has been a really bad experience.

I called AHS for service, and then they sent someone out. But then they said that what I probably had with my main pipe wasn’t covered. They told me we had to fix it ourselves and we’re responsible for the repairs. That wasn’t the first time. We’re looking now for another company because we’ve called them for our washer and for our pool and they also said they weren't not covered. When the washer wasn’t covered, we went and got a new washer. They came out and repaired the washer once before, so how come it was covered the last time? Their reps and contractors were usually friendly. But be careful about what AHS covers, because majority of time when I call, it hasn’t covered.

Our AC wasn't cooling. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online as calling isn't really an option. You can't get through. The contractor AHS sent was very professional and we were very happy with him. It was raining but he stuck to the job, fixed the problem, and got out of here. We're satisfied with our experience with this company.

I had three different claims with American Home Shield that were filed all about the same time. In one case, I had a contractor come out and fix some electrical issues. He was very competent and helpful and did a good job. In another case, we had a ceiling fan that was needed to be repaired where I was told that one of the options was to cash out and take what American Home Shield would give and buy the fan ourselves. And that took a little while to get taken care of. But the other things that were done were well taken care of. There was also a light switch that needed to be fixed and that was done very quickly. Part of that process was also a smoke detector that needed to be replaced, and we’re still waiting on that one. All in all, some of the claims have been really good, and some of them have been a little bit slow.

The microwave was broken and I put in a claim with American Home Shield on their web portal and paid the money. They have a little option to tell them what brand of microwave I have and so I wrote all that down and sent it to them. They would give my information to some contractor in the area. That contractor would contact me to set up an appointment and all of that has been pretty good in general. It seemed to work.
The first guy that came, which was the next day, doesn’t fix microwaves so he sent it back to American Home Shield. They got someone else who said that they couldn't fix the microwave and that they needed some part. They left and never called back. They left their number and I called them, then they never called me back. I waited two weeks and was hoping maybe it was just like the parts thing and it was hard to get. After the two-week mark, I called American Home Shield again and said that this wouldn't work out and that I needed someone else now 'cause there was no point in waiting for that guy. The agent was saying, "Oh, let's give them a call and see if…" and then I told the agent that I don’t want them even if they answer back.
They got me someone else and that person who came by had the part in his car. At this point, before he came, no one knew what the part was. Whatever part that these guys were saying was missing, he was like, "Oh yeah, this should be standard. You should have this, if you're gonna repair things like this." He was knowledgeable and he knew what to look for, like he didn’t know what the problem was but he tested it out, opened it up, identified the part, replaced the part, tested it again, put it back and explained to me the issue and gave me his card, and we're done.
American Home Shield is pretty good. I paid $1,000 and then I pay $75 for a visit. I have a two-year contract so I have to see whether or not if it's gonna be worth that money in those two years. Essentially, the service makes sense, like the way that they set it up, how they contract with the contractors that are coming out. That's fine but one of the failures is that if they have a contractor that doesn’t know what he is doing or how to fix things or at the very least, won't answer his phone, it's gonna make them look bad, so they need to follow up. If they just followed up with me and they followed up with that contractor, then they would have known faster than two weeks that there was an issue.

I wouldn’t know what to do if it weren’t for American Home Shield. Recently the capacitor went out on the air conditioner, and though it was a little difficult to explain what was going on, they figured it out and sent somebody out. The only thing that gets to me is they first contacted a more local air conditioner company that does not do my area. So, that was a wasted day and a wasted phone call. Grant’s is the only one that I ever want coming back out here. They’re great people. They’re a little bit further out, but they service my area. When they did the initial install, they had to come and put a new one out ‘cause our old one was falling apart and there were no repairs for it. They do an amazing job all the time. They're very personable and respectful folks.

I have a Liebherr refrigerator-freezer, which is a pretty high-end unit. It's a built-in panel-ready unit. When the automatic defrost function wouldn’t work, I would manually defrost it but after two months, it would pack up with ice again. That had been an ongoing problem for a long time and it took several different organizations to finally fix it. But it did get fixed by the last guys, Virginia Electric. And the guy who ultimately nailed it down owned it. This particular problem just took a little effort to get resolved. But the contractors I've had experience with have all been wonderful. I've been with American Home Shield for about four years and everything has always been fine with them too. I submit claims online which is easier. I have the site bookmarked and I just go right in then it's boom, boom, boom. After a day or two, a contractor would contact me, which is a time frame that is well within expectations. I recommend American Home Shield.

The contractor AHS chose to fix my ac gave me a quote that was $1,900 that I had to pay out of pocket so I just ended up getting another person on my own who got it done cheaper than that. AHS needs to select their contractors carefully. But I like the online process of AHS when it's working. One time the web page wasn’t working, so that made it frustrating. But otherwise, it's very nice and it's usually very quick to get a contractor out.

Once I found out that my AC wasn't blowing cold air, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the telephone. That day, they told me that someone should be calling me from the company that will be coming to look at it. They, however, did not call me. I even had to give them a call two days afterward. The company then came out, looked at my AC, and they denied me the claim for some reason but they couldn’t explain why. In addition, they came out three days earlier than the appointment that they set and I told them I wasn't gonna be here, and it was not the right day. So we had to reschedule the day that I wanted to. However, that day was already booked up so I had to wait for the following week and get them to get out here. Since my claim was denied, I called AHS back and they notified me that I could have a second opinion.
So I had a second opinion and they told me someone would call. The people in that company called me a day later and I made an appointment for them to come out. When they came out, they said that the unit was unserviceable, and there was no reason that I should be denied the claim. The second company was fantastic. They were in communication with me the whole time and they fully explained to me what was going on and what would be done. They made an appointment to come back, and they replaced the unit. In closing, American Home Shield acts as a middleman. They refer you to the people that’s gonna work in your area. However, if you have any problems with the contractors, it is hard to get back with AHS. Once they refer you, they are hands off for you in a while.

When I put the post on this site they put a post on as if they are dealing with my problem. Just want the public to know they have not and the company they have me with the plumber have not showed up at all and can't get a hold of AHS either so sad...I advise you do not waste your time with this company...rude all the way around from the head down to the reps!
Original review: My pipe burst under my toilet 10/27/18 and I called home warranty about the incident. The remaining of the evening they gave me the run around until they closed for the evening. The plumbing company stated to me that they needed an extra 600 dollars from me because home warranty not going to pay for time and a half so they wanted it from me. I told AHS and that's when they kept telling me to call back. I called early Sunday morning 10/28/17 7 am to report the same incident because of the run around they gave me on Saturday not to mentioned this whole time I'm completely without water in my household.
They sent me to another plumbing company and the company called me and said they wasn't qualified for my type of work on the weekend so they told me I needed to call AHS back and tell them they not doing the job not to mentioned I'm on day 2 without water in my home!!! They would never let me speak to a supervisor throughout the times I talked to them. I finally talk with a supervisor and he did nothing but did the same thing to me as his reps! I am so done with this company. If you don't want to get the run around with something stop working in your home stay away from American Home Shield!
Hello, Sharney. I apologize that you were not assisted more thoroughly over the weekend for the issue that you were experiencing. I show that a supervisor has left a message for you to discuss this service request.

What a disappointment. Being in the military I was stationed all over the country which I carried American Home Shield for many of the homes we lived in. I always paid my dues on time and never caused any issues. Now that retired, after 23 years, a few months ago we moved to Florida and bought a home with a pool. The heater on my pool went out. I called AHS for service and paid my deductible. Turns out I need a full replacement which is about 2 to 3 thousand dollars. They denied me because they said it was chemical related which goes against the hazardous material clause on their contract. I told them of course it’s chemical related because it’s a pool and the water has chlorine. I guess chlorine falls under hazardous material. Then why allow me to add a pool to a warranty?
The person they sent to check my pool crushed the pipes leading to the heater and now I can’t operate my pool. AHS says it’s not their problem and the pool guy they sent won’t fix what he broke. I called several AHS reps and explained my situation. I told them I’m not only a loyal customer of many years, but I’m also a wartime Army Veteran with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. They didn’t care and said they won’t help me. Now I’m out of options and have to not only fix the original problem, but also pay to fix the problem from the technician AHS sent. Customer care is big to me. The fact they used chlorine as an excuse for the hazardous material clause of the contract shows they’ll find loopholes to save from paying 2 to 3 thousand dollars. I’m sad for their lack of ethics and their lack of customer care.

When I was having issues with my garage door, the technician from Reliable Garage Doors got out really quick. It was either the same day or the next day. Our interaction was short and sweet as well because he immediately knew what was wrong. It turned out that something was just blocking the sensor. He explained it to me and I was aggravated at myself that I didn't check that. It was a little chair from my granddaughter that my son had. My daughter-in-law and son had put a bunch of stuff in my garage. And the chair was blocking the sensor by about a fourth of an inch. The technician literally picked it up and then the garage door worked.
I would highly recommend American Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I recommended American Home Shield to a friend of mine but she decided to go with State Farm. They had some type of coverage for certain things that was supposed to be similar to a home warranty. She kept saying that it was just a couple of dollars every month and they would cover everything. But I didn't buy it. I had told her that there had to be a catch with the insurance policy. Then when her air conditioner died, State Farm said they don't cover that. She should've gone with American Home Shield. Their site is very user-friendly too. I have no problem with submitting claims online.

I had water leaks coming down to the bottom part of the sink in the middle of our new house's cooking area. Every time we used the faucet, water was just pouring down. At first, I thought it was a plumbing issue. I paid $25 out of my pocket for a plumber to come in and tell me what was wrong because it may require for the drain pipe to be changed. I didn’t know that American Home Shield would cover the repair. But the plumber told me the problem was not the pipe. It was the garbage disposal that was faulty. I told him that I have warranty and he said that the warranty company should be able to handle the repair. I was pleasantly surprised. But he said that he didn’t represent me so that was when I made the call to American Home Shield.
The plumber and the contractor American Home Shield sent, Hardy Plumbing Co., assessed exactly the same thing. The connections of a faulty garbage disposal in the sink weren't working and water was dripping through one of the connections down to the bottom part of the sink. The person who attended to my claim was very conscious. He explained very well what needed to be done, went out to obtain the parts, came back, put it in, tried it and waited for water to be processed through. So far, it's working perfectly.
I have to be patient when submitting a claim though. I have to wait until at least a day to acquire the services of a representative and have them come in. But I don’t think that's an inconvenience. It's nothing to be concerned about and I'd still recommend American Home Shield. In fact, my son's buying a new house now and he'll be contacting this company as well.

I can't get in touch with them in order to do the replacement which was very frustrating.
Submitting claims on the phone is terrible. I've sat on the phone a couple of times, till almost an hour. I had to hang up because I could not wait any longer for their Replacement Department. On the other hand, if you submit your claim online, it's really easy. They get to call back and they schedule. Submitting claims with American Home Shield is awesome. The only thing not awesome, however, is getting through when we’re trying to call. I had a claim for some appliances and the first time I called, I had to wait for an hour. Their contractor then came out and looked at everything. He fixed what he could fix and told me that he had to order parts for the other items. He said he had to check with my warranty company if those were covered, and then he would order the parts. I didn't know what the protocol was, as this is my first home and first home warranty, but no one ever called me. So I called AHS two weeks later to see what was going on and they told me that the contractor should have called me to set up an appointment. They also said that the part was coming in on Thursday of that week, so I thought maybe the contractor was gonna wait till they got the parts before calling me.
In addition to that, my washing machine needed to be replaced but no one had said anything about that needing to be replaced. I thought it was getting parts as well. So when I talked to AHS they said it had to get replaced, and they passed me over to their replacement department. I also waited an hour when they did that. But at that time, I could not wait any longer so I hung up. And then, I called again this week because no one still has called me. Finally, after waiting two hours to get through the first person, the lady explained everything that was going on. I thanked her and then she passed me to the replacement group. I then stayed on the phone from 6 o'clock until I finally got help from someone at 6:50. The guy was very kind and helpful. He said he would call me back once he got approval to replace the washing machine, but no one called me. He called me back on Monday, and then, stuff started to happen.
Everyone that I talked to at AHS has been great. I think they know people are waiting for hours, so they're extra kind, which I appreciate. They're also very responsive when we get in contact with them. And then, their contractors have been punctual and knowledgeable. They talk, which is great because some people don't. With the recent one we had though, I would have appreciated if they called to tell me that they had ordered the parts, when those parts would arrive and that they were gonna call me back for a schedule.

About 14 months ago, we had a need to replace our AC unit upstairs. The contractor from American Home Shield was not rated well at all when we looked it up online, so we opted to go with another company even though we had the warranty with American Home Shield. AHS gave us a credit towards using another contractor and we got somewhat of a reprieve from what the total cost would have been.
About a month ago, we had a problem with our other air conditioning unit on the main level. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the process was simple. I just indicated what type of appliance was in need of repair but their website didn't allow for any specifics to be noted. Then, a contractor came and fixed the unit. He replaced a part and that seemed to do the trick. But the AC ran for about an hour and was cut again. So, I re-called AHS by phone and I was on hold for less than an hour before somebody finally came on. On a number of occasions where I've had to call them, their answering time seems to be a big problem with them.
Then, the contractor returned the following day, did a lot of trouble-shooting, and found an obscure cause of the problem. I give him credit for that because it was not a run-of-the-mill item. There were some wires that frayed over a period of time and those wires shorted the part that he put in. So he replaced the wires and we have not had a problem since. The contractor was very good and very personable. He knew his job and went right to work. All in all, we have American Home Shield for a few years now and we also had unpleasant experiences with them. For instance, we had an issue which had to do with their service personnel. However, they have good turnover so that changes from time to time. But based on our recent experience with the AC, we're satisfied with American Home Shield.

I called AHS to file a claim and the contractor they sent out said that there was a loose wire inside the air conditioner that was grounding itself out inside the casing and that was causing it to run all the time. Also, he said that the motor that had burned out because it had been running had to be replaced. He got in contact with AHS to get the okay to replace it and got one of those in order. Then, he came back and replaced it. The issue was taken care of pretty quickly and it's all fine now. I’m very, very glad that my Realtor advised that I get a home warranty. He said he'd come back and would order a new piece. For somebody to come out for the same problem, I should only be charged once. But the customer service was telling me, “No, this, that and the other thing.” This was an issue that I thought one time and that’s it. If it’s their fault, why should I pay another service charge? The contractor was blowing me off too. That was the only issue that I’ve had with AHS though. With the oven, the contractors came out, and AHS is gonna replace the oven. Submitting a claim at American Home Shield is very easy. I go online and I submit it. I get texted right away, and they contact a technician that will be on their way. I got a great technician for the air conditioner. However, there's an issue that I have with a technician that came out last week who was very unprofessional, to the point where a couple of days after the technician was fixing our water heater, our garage started to smell like gas. We called the gas company, and they came out and said, “Everything about this situation is unprofessional. I need to shut you guys down.” So, they shut down our water heater.
I called American Home Shield to let them know of the situation. I had to wait a couple of days for another company to come out. The technician that came said, “I agree with the gas company. Nothing about this is correct. It’s gonna cost more to fix the problem than to just get you a new water heater. I’ll submit the report to American Home Shield.” I called AHS yesterday after waiting an hour on the phone, and the person who was helping me didn’t know anything about the situation. I asked, “Am I gonna be hearing from someone, or do I need to keep calling you guys and waiting an hour on the phone?” The rep said, “Someone should be contacting you within the next 48 hours.”
So far, I have not heard from American Home Shield. It’s been a headache of a process and I feel like I have to always be on top of them. I have to put my work aside to call them and to wait in line for them to receive my call, and once I receive the call, the operators are not knowledgeable. I have made it a habit to constantly ask them, “Please make sure you put this in the note for when I talk to an operator tomorrow ‘cause I know I will, and they have to go back.”

Our AC stopped cooling in the house. Over a couple of days, we noticed it. I checked the circuit breakers and everything that I could do myself, and reset things, but it didn’t fix the problem. So, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. A tech came out and immediately diagnosed that it was the motor on the outside unit. He had the part and he replaced it. Within an hour and 15 minutes, he had the system back up and running, and we were cooling. We also have a microwave light that was not working, and I’ve replaced the bulb until I figured I'd just call it in. I diagnosed it down to being the circuit board, and that was several hundred dollars to repair. That part cannot be found by the local service technician, and I have to wait 7 to 10 days to find out the final verdict.
Our contractors have been great. They’ve been prompt and they ask questions. They don’t second guess when I tell them what I’ve done to diagnose and what my thoughts are. They don’t come back and they start to question that. I told the tech that I’ve dealt with for the microwave, “I replaced the light bulb. I’ve put a volt meter to the socket, checked there was no voltage.” Those are the exact same steps he would’ve done. He said, “I’m not gonna waste your time, and I’m not gonna waste my time. Let me go ahead and submit the claim for the circuit board.” That’s been the experience with every single one of the technicians. I’d highly recommend American Home Shield. The coverage pays for itself.

My water heater was leaking gas so I called AHS and the reps were wonderful. They were prompt. But when I Google the person they made an appointment to come out, the ratings were not good. So I called them back and told them I wanted somebody else, and then, the next person they gave me worked out great. They were prompt and nice. They seemed like they knew what they were doing and they fixed it. My only thing with American Home Shield is they need to make sure if they're picking somebody off the of the list to send out and not just send out whoever, because with the gas leak in my house, I would have hated to think I got the lesser person. But overall, I'm glad I've got AHS.

American Home Shield's agents have been very nice and professional. However, one day I was left on hold for 45 minutes and I hung up. I was not happy with that and that didn't happen just once. But it was the longest time I had to wait. AHS needs to work on not putting people on hold that long. It's ridiculous when I call and I'm left on hold for so long so many times. But the techs they have sent out have been great so far. They came out to fix my icemaker and it worked for a little while. Then, I called AHS to have my refrigerator fixed because it started thawing out. The contractor came in a timely manner and fixed the unit.
But I called AHS on October 17th because my icemaker froze up again. They were gonna send someone out, but the service call I requested fell through the cracks and no one came out. I called AHS again this morning and they picked up right away. At the moment, I'm waiting for the call for the technician who's coming back out to fix my icemaker.

If you flush the toilet, it would continue to run and so, you would use it again at another time and it would stop. Use it another time and it would continue to run. Phil, the rep from Haggart Plumbing came and made his assessment. He was very experienced, thorough, knowledgeable and had a good skill set in plumbing. He corrected both issues and he was expedient. He arrived when he said he would arrive and he was not rushed. He answered all of my questions. He was very friendly, outgoing and professional. Now, if we get up at night to use the toilet and flush it, we go back to bed and we have no worries because he did a tremendous job. He changed out the interior guts of the tank because that is where the issue was but more so an inoperable fill valve.
I had another vendor come out which was Bill’s Appliance and Video. These people were on time, knew what they were doing and their personnel were trained. It's been a win-win for me, and a win-win for the vendors and AHS. I've been spreading the word about American Home Shield to the point where my neighbors have purchased the product. Submitting a claim online with American Home Shield was very easy. I had a washer that was not functioning properly and while it took two days for the technician to come out here, which was not too terribly long, the problem itself needed to be taken care of immediately. I think that under certain circumstances, I shouldn't have to wait more than 24 hours for someone to come out. If the furnace goes out in the middle of the winter, then waiting 24 hours is not really a good move. Other than that, the technician was excellent. He let me know exactly what was going on with the washer, and he was a good guy. Also, everything's working fine now.

But that doesn’t happen very often, just a couple of times at random. The service for that particular claim was really good. The contractor was prompt and got the item fixed, and everything has been working fine since the repair. American Home Shield is a good service and I’ve had it for 12 years. American Home Shield sent JT Ultimate Pools to check on our pump. It was loud and making big noises. The tech said at that time that they were very efficient. However, it couldn’t be replaced because there was a piece that could be replaced that would continue to make it work. They did that and it continued to work, but it still made lots of noise, which was something we had to live with. We continued to run our pool and do it really loud but it ended up going out. Fortunately, we were able to reach out to AHS and the contractor. The pieces and parts were covered under warranty and they did a good job.
We were not happy with a company that came out before. It was through American Home Shield and when our pool started going bad, we specifically requested not to have them because I felt like they sabotaged some of our pool equipment. There were also stripped screws that weren’t there before. On the other hand, we highly recommend JT Ultimate Pools. They were very knowledgeable and they took care of our needs. I felt very comfortable having them at my home. We’re also happy with American Home Shield and we’ve recommended them to some other people. Once, it took a long time to fix our refrigerator but we just didn’t understand that the part wasn’t even available. If we would’ve understood that it was the reason why it took six weeks to fix, it would’ve been understandable and now we know that.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good. It has been easy submitting a claim through them and I do it online as it is more convenient. I called them once and I was on hold for a long time. When the pilot on our water heater would not stay lit. The technician from Triple S Plumbing came and he lit it and I have not had a problem with it since. He was very good, pleasant and professional. Prior to that, I had an issue with my refrigerator that is in the garage, and the repair guy was really good as well. He taught me a few things about appliances that I did not know.
However, last week, I was having another issue with my plumbing and AHS sent out a different company. There was a leak in my garage and I did the online thing to request service from AHS, but by the time the contractor came out, the leak was dried up. My nephew was there at that time because I had to work. And so, I sent my nephew the pictures of where the leak was coming from. Then, the contractor said that they don’t open up the walls and that we have to do that instead. Only then when they will take a look. I told them that there was a problem there. But the guy said that the trash can is over there and the leak looks like oil. I said, “My little trash can doesn’t leak, and if it’s oil, that would be from my car, which I don’t even park in my garage.” I told him that the leak might be due to the sewage. So, they put a little hole in the wall and said that they don't see anything, and then they left.
When I went out there, I saw the little hole that they put in the wall. I looked through the hole and could tell that there was some type of leak there. I was a bit irritated because I think that the contractor could have looked a bit further. That was not the first time it has leaked like that, so there was a problem somewhere. I also wanted them to fix my leaky shower. It was fixed for two days, but then it started leaking again. This is the first time I ever had issues with the contractor that came out to look at the issue. But, other than that, Ameican Home Shield has been good.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Michelle. I do apologize for the wait time but I'm glad to know that we were able to resolve your issue. We look forward to servicing your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

There was an air conditioning issue in the home, and it was kind of an odd situation. We thought it might have been electrical but when the electrical company came out, they said it had nothing to do with that and that it was more of an air conditioning issue. The motor would run but it wouldn’t cool or anything. So we called AHS to see if we could get some assistance to have someone take a look at it.
The process was really quick and clear. They provided us the information in terms of how much we would have to pay out of pocket and what the steps were They were able to give us an appointment within days from when we called. Moreover, the person that they sent was very pleasant, very knowledgeable and provided even more information than we needed outside of just the air conditioner - things that could potentially impact the air conditioner as well. He replaced some parts of the toilets and didn’t fix the running. I ended up having to fix it myself by buying additional parts.
I couldn’t use the washer until they came out and confirm. I didn’t wanna buy a new washer and dryer but based on what I figured the leaking problem was with it. The contractor had to fix it. But I live on the second floor, so if it broke again it eventually would have flooded my neighbors. That also would have caused me more money. He even replaced the icemaker, and when I went to make the ice after he replaced the parts of the maker, water was still shooting out at the back. The issue wasn’t the icemaker itself. It was the hose in the back that had a hole in the line, so he ended up having to come out again. He replaced the line and fixed it. I definitely would recommend American Home Shield. The furnace would blow air but the actual air conditioning unit would not kick in. I was pretty sure I knew what it was and that it needed a capacitor to kick it in but I wasn’t equipped to fix it. I submitted a claim with AHS online and that process was simple and straightforward. Then I got a call a day later. AHS sent out BMR HVAC Services and they were fantastic. Their tech showed up, tested the AC, and told me what the issue was. Then he went to his truck and said that he didn't have the size capacitator in his truck. He said he'd have to run to the store and grab it but the store is across town. He was back in 15 minutes though and I was impressed that he made it in that time. And when he got back, he said that the repair would be done in five minutes, and it was. He kicked it in and everything ran great since then, so I had no issues.
But before this recent claim on my AC, I had one for my refrigerator and the guy who came out was not a technician. He even admitted that and said that he was an engineer. Also, he fixed it but didn’t take a lot of care in doing so. Often, it seems that AHS' contractors are kind of mom-and-pop shops and they work out deals. I've submitted five claims so far and four of them have been excellent. Those were done by the kind of companies that take pride in their work because their reputation is their name or their business. But this particular guy who worked on my refrigerator was not like that. He scraped up my fridge and took some chunks off of the front veneer when he was trying to get the panel. So there were chunks around the water part and that broke off. Then he pulled that front component off of the face of the refrigerator, but he used a putty knife to do it.
I let AHS know about my experience with that guy and they said that that was the contractor's issue. I was frustrated about it but I didn’t pursue it and I just wanna be done with the whole thing. Other than that, my experience with AHS has been good overall. I have them for two and half years now and on the few claims that I've had to submit, they were always fairly quick.

The microwave and the dryer both went out on the same week. When I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I did it online and the site was friendly. However, they could improve on the delivery time. They should not give me a window from 8:00 to 5:00. I work and I need just an hour window or a two-hour window. At least, I know I can work half a day, or I have to leave work early, or go to work later. If he’s a tech, and he’s an hour or 30 minutes away, then give me an hour call or ask if I could be home within a timeframe. I have to pay for the insurance. It’s not free. So, if I don’t go to work, I can’t pay for it which defeats the purpose.
The guy who came out for the microwave looked at it and got it to come on. Then, he said it didn’t go off and it was something about the motherboard. He did a ticket on that and yesterday, I got a call. The lady gave me the model number and she asked about replacing it with a new one. I will call her back to let her know that we want to take a new microwave.
A guy came out for the washing machine and the dryer. He replaced a relay on the dryer. He thought it may have went out because of the heat blowback. He checked the vent going out and he said that he didn’t see anything in it but then it may be something down in it, so I may have a problem later on. I asked him why wouldn’t he troubleshoot it now so he or no else wouldn’t have to come back for this issue. He said it was what the ticket was about. He did what he was sent out to do. The dryer is working but he said it could happen again. This is why I got the insurance and instead of a preventive measure, he should have taken care of it now. Nevertheless, I’m happy with AHS and I’m extremely satisfied with the service that I got and what I paid for. I've recommended them and four people have picked up their service from me telling them the experience I’ve had with AHS. These guys are real and this is a legit company.

I reviewed the invoice for the extra charges and it was obvious I was being grossly overcharged. I mean $250 to install a $40 part that a child could replace??? Among other issues. Apparently the contractors only make their money on an AHS call if they overcharge with "extra" fees. When I called AHS back and confronted them about this they backtracked and told me I was right.
After some waffling the rep came back and told me they were still declining it because it was a pre-existing condition that would have been caught in an inspection. According to my contract if the appliance is visually sound and turns on with no obvious issues then it will pass their inspection. My furnace was running just fine up until the night I called them. So how can there be a pre-existing condition if it was functioning just fine by their definition. Lie number 2. It all played out well for me so I'm happy. But I can envision a lot of people getting and feeling horribly ripped off and causing them some very bad reviews online. When somebody is specifically upgrading to get a particular kind of coverage, American Home Shield should not just tell the customer to wait until they've paid their fee and they've gotten their policy. American Home Shield should say what things they would not cover due to that coverage. Because that did not happen with me. If there are gotchas in that thing, then people need to know about it. At least, I would have been warned about it and it would have been my problem then.
With my most recent claim, GE Electric had to come out after the inspection on the house found what seemed to be an electrical problem in the jet tub in the master bath. The inspector turned out to have been in error about that though. It was not an electrical problem. It was a tub problem. We also had a problem in the kitchen with our can lights. They were acting very erratically. So we were concerned about wiring problem in the kitchen. But the electrician found out that there was no wiring problem in the kitchen. They did a good job. But I discovered that the electrician had incidentally clipped some breakers in the electrical box and we lost our air conditioning for a day. So we called him back out. He didn't charge us for that call though because he was all kinds of embarrassed about that. That aside, they were excellent.

We've called American Home Shield several times and they’ve always been good and they've fixed everything for us. When I had leaking water pipes, the contractors were out the next day after I submitted the claim and they did what they needed to do. The problem got fixed quickly and everything's working fine. I called that claim in and it was a very easy process. I got called very quickly from the vendor. There was a problem with the website when I tried to use it, but I've used it successfully several times before.

The garbage disposal in our house stopped working and the first thought I had was that there was something wrong with it. I submitted my claim online, and AHS's website is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. They sent a plumber who took a week to come out. He was very friendly and really helpful. He went above and beyond what I expected so I was really happy with his service. He tried to do everything he could to test the garbage disposal and said that it was an electrical issue. We then had an electrician come out and they fixed the problem. Having AHS has been very helpful overall. They’re very responsive and we enjoy having the extra coverage.

American Home Shield sent GE Appliances to fix our heater. I did the claim over the phone and the process was really easy. The contractor explained things to my husband and he was very easy to deal with. We've had some bad experience with some of Home Shield's contractors, too. It took us about six months to get our air conditioner fixed. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with the damn thing. The contractor came out and didn’t know what was wrong with it. And then, we personally paid for the people that put the machine in to come out and tell us what was wrong with it.
We called Home Shield again and they had a contractor come out but they didn’t have the part. So, they had to order the part. When the part came in, they came out. Then we had to pay for the Freon which we weren’t told we had to do. They finally got the thing fixed, but it took us six months of waiting. They would never tell us what was wrong with it and that there was a problem. If I hadn’t gotten on the phone and started complaining, it would never have been fixed. Neither the contractor nor Home Shield communicated that there was a problem or that they didn’t know what the part was. They didn’t know the machine.

My air-conditioner did not work and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online on July 6. That was pretty easy but my problem is that the response time sucked. They responded the following week but the contractor they sent out was a great company. It was Big Sky and the gentleman's name is Justin. He checked the air-conditioning unit and my thermostat to see what was going on. I explained to him my thermostat wasn't connected to the air-conditioner. I would turn on a little flip switch if I had to turn it on. We found out later why. The thermostat only has two wires and when you have air-conditioning and furnace on the same one, you have to have the four wires. But nothing is changed on that.
American Home Shield took their sweet old time on deciding what they needed to do with it. He tried to charge it, but it lasted maybe 15 minutes and then quit. There was a leak in there and it was really hard to find. So, AHS said to change out the compressor and something else in it but they couldn't find the parts for it. So then, he came back again and tried something else they wanted him to do. That was two weeks later.
Meanwhile, I was calling and nobody talked to me. I ended up where I kept calling every day. First, I called in at AHS to find out what was going on and it was going through their some of their divisions that do the, "Okay." Then, after a three-week thing, they finally Okay-ed me and it wasn't until August 7th that they put in the new air-conditioner. I'm an asthmatic and we were having 100-degree days here. So, our neighbor across the street loaned me their in-the-window air conditioner to run, so I could at least keep whatever room I was in cold. Also, one of the supervisors said that they were waiting for the $100 deductible because of that problem but I haven't received another $100 bill from them to pay. Other than that, I would still recommend AHS because they replaced the unit. Someone suggested that I do the American Home Shield so, I have suggested it to many other people.

The AC wasn’t blowing out cold air. Initially, I went through the online process and American Home Shield dispatched a company. I spoke to the company, and then they came out and said that they weren’t able to complete the task. They were, nevertheless, okay. I then contacted the home warranty again, and then they dispatched a second company that was able to correct the problem. They were friendly, too. Then, I was out of town for two weeks, and when I came back, the air conditioner froze up. There was a part that was replaced that when they put it, they did not tighten it correctly, and so they had to come back out and correct it. When they came back out and corrected the problem, I did not have any issues since. AHS is worth it.

I filed claims online to American Home Shield and navigating the website was great. My fridge was leaking on the bottom and it was getting on to the kitchen floor. The technician said he couldn’t find the leak from the kitchen fridge and it continued to leak for a little while after that but it stopped now. It was causing the kitchen floor to buckle a little bit but he said it may be condensation. He recommended that we clean our compressor so he cleaned that and charged us for it. He said that he cleaned out the drain but that didn’t fix it and we still don’t know what the problem is. Also, the burners on my gas cooktop weren’t lighting consistently and the flames were not uniformed. The cooktop is still not functioning the best and if it’s possible to get it replaced, I would like to know how bad it has to be before we can do something about it or what the process is.

They were extremely knowledgeable and extremely thorough in trying to find the leak. They fully communicated what they thought had happened. They told me how to set up and watch it to make sure they were correct. Then they advised me that I should, after a few weeks, call American Home Shield and have it patched, which I didn’t know was an option. American Home Shield would come bring a contractor out to rough patch my ceiling. So, they were great. We have not had any leaks since the repair. If you own a home and you get past your 5- or 10-year warranty, you need to think outside the box. As a single woman with a home, I felt that the home warranty was something I needed to help protect myself. And American Home Shield was really good to me. The first time I ever used them was when the line on the outside of my air conditioner kept freezing up and getting ice around it. I would come home and there would be no air in the house. And my house would get hot. That happened a couple of times.
I did that claim online and then American Home Shield gave me the name of someone who was supposed to get back to me in a couple of hours. But they never got in contact with me. American Home Shield was very good though. When I called them to say that I was never getting a response, they obliged me and were very accommodating. It was August and it was just too hot. I told them I couldn’t sleep in the heat and they tried to get me in the most comfortable state. The man I dealt with was very knowledgeable and they called Tommy Garner Air and Heating.
Tommy Garner came right out that night and the technician did something to make the AC stay on. Then he called American Home Shield to see what they would pay to replace a part. It was some piece that was wrong with the unit because it was dropping the pressure. I don’t feel like the house now is as cool as it was but that could be me. The air conditioner was working fine before I cut the unit off. Besides, American Home Shield really went beyond what I thought they would have done.

Overall, my experience has been good. We’ve had American Home Shield off and on for the last 30 years and when it’s off, it’s because we moved and our warranty company is whoever the seller provided. It’s more on than off though, and I recommend American Home Shield. It would be nice if we got a report though. We have a rental property and one time, the renters said that the AC wasn’t working. We scheduled American Home Shield out and the contractor came out in a good time but we don’t know what happened. We don’t know if the AC is broken or if we need to do something proactively. If there was something that needed to be repaired, what was it?
The system was inspected, cleaned and serviced before the renter came in. We paid a lot of money for that so what were they fixing? The renter will forward the paperwork to us but it doesn’t tell us anything either. It says, “Generic repairs, $75.” It would be nice if we got a report, not necessarily on paper because we are all trying to get away from paper. But it would be nice if there is an online record, since we’re making the appointments online, where we can go on to our record and see a history. On this day, we had this done. We can see if the renter has called the service three times. Then maybe it’s our renter, especially if nothing was wrong.
We also had one issue with this renter where we had to call American Home Shield back in less than six weeks and they said no problem but that they may charge. We couldn’t do that online though. We had to call and when you call during the day, it could be an hour wait. My partner is usually sitting with it on speaker and listening to their music for an hour. I can’t do it if I’m at work because I’m constantly running around. I can’t leave my phone on speaker for my co-workers to hear music. Doing it online is easier and if we can do it online and indicate that it is a second call, then they can go into our records and see that the contractor was just out for the same thing.
We also can’t select who we wanna come out when doing a claim online. And not every electrician or plumber is the same. Recently, we had a call on our ice maker and when the gentleman came out, he told me to do something and if it doesn’t work, to call back and they would order a part. That was about six weeks ago, and we had to call and remind him when the part is in. But it’s not in. They didn’t update or follow up with us. Now, they’ve told us to defrost our refrigerator 24 hours before they come by and they’ll change it out. So it was not a great experience with them. In the past, we’ve had our appliance worked on and the people have been really nice. They came in and fixed the issue in a timely manner. So it would be nice if American Home Shield gave us an option to reuse someone that we were pleased with before. Other than that, we like American Home Shield and we’ll continue to work with them.

I have been a customer of AHS for over 10 years and there is yet a time when I am able to speak to a live person regarding anything other than setting up a service call in less that 35 minutes. There is no other way to contact/chat/email the team that sets up the monthly payment plan, works with you when buying/selling a home, or stopping service other than sitting on the phone for no fewer than 25 minutes (my average over 10 years has been 35).
In addition, the letters they send out only has the main phone number, so after sitting on hold for 35 minutes, I actually got to talk to a very nice person who advised me that they had to transfer me to another department because, even though my letter says to call (800) 766-4663 to set up a new payment plan, that's not the correct department. My service rep. attempted to locate the correct department while I was still on the line twice, but kept getting a busy signal and ended up giving me the correct phone number (888) 682-1043, which (you guessed it) takes me back to the home menu where I have to go through the whole process again... and wait on hold.
PLEASE address the following: 1. Revise your communications to direct your customers to the correct department that can assist in the issue your letter is pertaining to. 2. Improve your phone system to minimize wait times. 3. Add additional features like "live chat" or even asking for a call-back number so a representative can call me. 4. Allow the set-up of a payment plan online. I have been happy with the coverage and service you AHS has provided over the years, but the customer service issues listed are well below industry standards and should be addressed.

We have had the service for 2 contract years. The first year was purchased from the seller when we bought the house, and we only needed service once. Since purchasing the second year, we have made multiple service requests, but 95% of the time, no one ever shows up! AND, they can never fit us in for 2 weeks, 3 weeks, definitely not in a timely manner. Imagine not having a furnace in the winter for 3 weeks. Great, right? We have had to call repeatedly to tell them that, after taking off work to have necessary appliances fixed, that their service company no-showed, or for them to tell us the company transferred the service- without telling us, and for no apparent reason. They've charged us for no-show appts and refuse to take the balance off our account, even though no service person showed up.
The one time a service person did show up, we were told that there was an exclusion that they didn't cover, even though it is not mentioned in our contract. When explaining the no-shows, the taking off of work, just the general inconvenience of the whole thing, their response is, "Well. You can just keep waiting or pay to fix it yourself." Don't waste your money. With the amount that we paid to have the AHS contract, we could have paid it ourselves and had the service done.
Currently on week 2 of waiting to get our washer fixed. Again, they cancelled last minute today after my husband taking off of work to be here for the appointment. Supposedly they can come tomorrow. But we work. And we were told, "Sorry, take off work again or don't have your appliance fixed." If they bother to show up. Or wait another week until the ONLY other service company is available. Meaning there are only TWO companies that can service our appliance. How do they expect TWO companies to meet the needs of a business dealing with, how many customers do they state? Of course, after I have reviewed the company reviews, I can only assume this will never reach the public, as only the positive reviews are 'featured'. In short, we will not be renewing our contract.

They had to ask the other person if it is okay to cancel their policy. I was paying for it and I had no idea who it was. To say the least I have been on the phone for hours trying to get this resolved. Finally today, I was told it should only take another 14 to 21 days to get the money back that was used for this other policy. We shall see.
If you live in the country - Do not use this service. They are slow to get to you and they have terrible coverage. If you don't like waiting on the phone - Do not use this service. My shortest phone call out of five calls has been 38 min. My longest is around a hour. If you have time to hold and you enjoy elevator music. This is the company for you. If you want something fixed quick - Do not use this service. (I live in Texas and our A/C went out in the summer time. Our wait time for service was 4 days. I ended up calling a A/C company myself and they came out and fixed it same day).
If you like to talk to lots of service representatives and tell each one the problem you are having. Only to have to call and repeat your self each time so that they know what the problem is. This is the company for you. If you enjoy a company that does not keep their word - This company is for you. I was told that I would receive a refund within 2-3 days. Not quite so now it is 14 to 21 days. My reference number is **.
If you want to talk with the same person about your problems, and the person even gives you their ID#, don't expect that you will ever talk with that person again. (I called and asked to speak with the same rep and gave them her id#, and was told that it is impossible to speak with the same person. Why have ID #'s if you can never talk with the same person.) Overall I was not impressed. If you continue to purchases this insurance then good luck and I wish the best. I am sure there has to be happy customers out there. They just did not make me happy.

I've submitted claims through online and by calling in. I would get email statuses from them and then, pretty soon, somebody would call me to schedule a time to come out and work it out. And the technicians have been great. Everyone's worked out. Several years ago, I had a dishwasher that was leaking and I had to pull that out right away so it couldn't be inspected. Home Shield usually needs to have the situations inspected by the technician before the repair. So far, I’m satisfied with American Home Shield. I go online to submit my claims. But the latest time, I submitted the claim and then I called to talk to someone because I realized it was a recall. The contractor, Southwest Appliance, was great. Once they got the order, it took about a week for them to get to me. The repair took three trips for the contractor to get it right. The first time didn't work. They had to order a part and then they had to order the whole panel on my refrigerator. Then, water was filling up in it, and the tech had to come back. He said something was stopped up from it being frozen. When he got it right, the water was running. But it looks like it’s okay now.
American Home Shield was very accommodating. Angela, the rep who works in the office, would call me and let me know where they were. The technician had an emergency and couldn’t come, the last time, on the day he was scheduled. So, Angela called and coordinated a reschedule. Other than that, the contractor has been good to work with and timely. I like that. They were usually here at the beginning of the timeframe. When they told me they were gonna be here between 8:00 and 12:00, they were usually here about 9:00, which worked for me.

We've had several different issues in the house and American Home Shield fixed some of them. However, getting our claim process started with them was difficult because we were on hold for a long time, like 30 minutes. They were very quick to react, but the hold time has always been crazy. Also, the contractor that they sent out to replace two toilet lids told us that we would be better off buying our own because what AHS will give will be the cheap ones that are not good. And then I told him that one of the bullets was not attached to the floor, they were sliding around and he said that's just the loose toilet label. If not, we can actually move the toilet back and forth, so that thing got fixed. Everything else fits, and overall, our experience with American Home Shield has been good.

I phoned in a claim with AHS for my freezer that was not working. They sent a technician out who did a great job and was very professional. Apparently, we had too much things in the freezer that were covering the back panel. He showed us not to block certain areas so that the air continues to flow inside the freezer. That was the second time that he has come for the same refrigerator and everything was handled properly. Since the repair, the freezer's working well. We're really happy with the service and I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. It's the best money spent ever.

I called American Home Shield and filed a claim for my oven. A Sears contractor came out and after five minutes of evaluation, he found out what was wrong. The only thing that was difficult back then was that he didn't have with him what was needed to fix the issue. So he had to order it. The first appointment happened later in the week and then the following Monday, he showed back up. It took him less than 15 minutes to get the unit going. The oven has been working fine after that. If you have a problem, call American Home Shield and they'd jump on it quickly. They're the only way to do it.

There was a gas leak and so, we looked up our contract if it would be covered. It was and we submitted the claim to have it go through American Home Shield. However, they said that it had to be under the house in order to be covered so we were quite disappointed. Not many gas lines are under the house and you have it go from the meter from the company to the house and into the house. It was very expensive and the reason why we have AHS is to cover stuff like this. We also had a Polara stove which was like a refrigerator/oven that wasn’t covered. You could put food in it cold and program it to start cooking in 12 hours. They don’t make them anymore and so, it couldn’t be fixed. We had to get another stove and we tried to find one that was the equivalent. It was a black one and I wanted another stainless looking stove put in so I ended up paying extra to get that.
For the most part, the claims are covered with AHS but the contract needs to be clearer because I feel like we wasted time putting it through them instead of just going ahead and telling the contractors to fix it right away. Overall, the contractors were fine but we weren’t too happy with the turnaround, especially with the gas leak, because we had tenants in the house and they went without hot water for at least three days. The contractors didn’t go out until the next day and then, they didn’t fix it until a day or two. Nevertheless, they did what we needed them to do.

American Home Shield sent out Mr. Appliance for my washer and they were great. They came out here one time and was able to fix my washer with no problem. I had a problem with the contractor that they sent for the water pump though, Greenway Services. They told us that the water pump was going out on the unit but that American Home Shield would not fix it until it completely went out, until it stops pumping water. So, I made another claim and I told AHS that I didn't want Greenway back out to our home again. I know how AHS works. I know their protocol but Greenway has been out to my house about three times in the past couple of years and every time, it has been a terrible service. Since then, I've changed companies. I'm no longer an American Home Shield customer.
Good afternoon Robin,

I call American Home Shield to submit my claims. I give them my credit card details for them to take the copay out and pay the person. If there’s anything, they tell me, “We’ll cover all but this.” It's not hard to submit claims. They take care of it. Service Pros of Virginia recently came out for our outdoor unit compressor that went bad. They had to replace the unit, which was nuts. We paid around $200 for the cost of it, so that turned out well. It took 10 days for them to get the new unit because they had to get the new unit and a part to connect to the old system. So, we went out and we bought a stand-alone unit that we just plugged in, set in the house and vent it to the window to use because it was hot and we couldn’t do without an AC.
The service we got was great. We had a slight problem two weeks after the new unit was installed. It stopped working, and the tech came back. He came out the day that I called. When they first installed the new unit and they put the Freon in it, they watched because it would show if it needs more. So they stayed around and watched it for half an hour. When they put much in it, it stopped working, and they took out what was not needed. And so, the tech did that, and it worked fine. The unit stopped working two weeks later and it was because of that. He said he never seen one run two weeks like that before it stopped, but he was right out and fixed it.
We have had good luck with the repairs that are made by AHS. Sometimes, AHS will have a little trouble finding somebody. We’re in Central Virginia and if they don’t find somebody in the area, at times, for different needs, we had them send somebody down from Maryland or from the Eastern Shore. Two years ago, we had a different contractor that worked on the heating portion of the unit and they installed the new heating portion, and they messed up when they did it. But the next time we had to call somebody out, they fixed it. Overall, I’m happy with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield sent High Priority Plumbing for our water heater. The service guy was very nice. He didn’t have anything in the start. He had to come back later. So unfortunately, we didn’t have water for a few days. We were out of town, so my daughter was here and the service guy came back and put the new water heater in. My only complaint is because our house is about 20 years old and the water heater was up off the ground and now the new one is down on the ground according to this guy. So we had to do a bunch of stuff for it. It cost me about 700 bucks because there was a bunch of upgrades. The guy replaced the water heater, but he said it didn’t include all of the other parts of the upgrade.
American Home Shield was helpful and their response was quick. Our air conditioner is also the same age as the house and it’s still kicking around and it keeps going out. So, we keep calling them and they just keep sending someone out to fix it. Eventually, it’s gonna have to be replaced. So, I’m thinking next year if it goes out more than twice, that’s it. I’m getting a new air conditioner because there is some point we have to rather than continue to fix it because it’s almost 20 years old.

American Home Shield's website was very user-friendly. I used it via my phone to submit a claim when the washer wasn't working, and I got a pretty quick response back. I had one gentleman who came in but he wasn't able to do the service. He was real conscious about it and real kind. He said that he was gonna have to refer back to American Home Shield and then they would send out a contractor better prepared to handle the project.
The next guy came out and he was very, very helpful. We ended up having three to four appointments to finally get it fixed because they kept having difficulties getting the system to work. But they were good communicators and I felt very comfortable with them in my home. They had to buy multiple parts, but they wrapped it up on a Friday. I was very, very pleased with the company. It was a really good experience. I’ve used the washer about five times since it has been repaired, and so far, so good. It has made my life a lot more better again because I had to take my clothes to a laundromat when the washer was down for five weeks. I’m very happy that I went with American Home Shield. They did such a great job for me.

I had a real struggle getting a copy of the contract from AHS. I asked for it three different times and that took weeks to get resolved. Then, I had an incident with my dryer. It was making a strange noise and it sounded to me like a belt might be going. AHS sent out a guy and he showed me the part that had a problem. But I still had an issue with the dryer. Somebody else came out and worked very good on it. It kind of bothered me that the first person who came out didn’t really detect what the problem was. But the second person that came out did and corrected it anyway. Also, that was nothing new to me in dealing with service people. It happened to me many times over the years where I had a claim and the person who came out didn't really get at the total problem. Other than that, things are going along smoothly with AHS.

I tried to change out a filter in my shower and as I was doing that, the pipe started to leak at the source of the water. So, I called American Home Shield and they told me that that leak was covered. They instructed Budget to be the service provider. It took Budget about four or five days to come out, but as soon as they came out, they addressed the issue. They fixed the leak and the pipe. They also fixed the issue that I had early on with changing out the filter. They were very good once they got there and took care of the problem very quickly.
I had American Home Shield in a previous residence and it always worked out really well. They tend to call, get a provider quickly, and get that provider out quickly to fix the problem. This one took a little longer than what I’ve previously experienced from American Home Shield but the vendors that I’ve had experience with have all been very good and have satisfied the situation promptly.

There was an issue with the ice maker and the freezer section. I'm not sure how that happened but I had just bought $200 worth of steaks and salmons and we had to throw all those away. It happened overnight so by the time we found out about it, it was too late. I called American Home Shield and they said that they would have someone out. The next day, Sears was here.
The technician wanted to know what was wrong with the freezer and we told him. He did not have an ice maker to replace it with but he said that he would go get one and be back in the morning, which he did. He even went above and beyond the call of duty because he had to take some backing off of the refrigerator-freezer and he said there was a lot of dust in there. He said he would vacuum that floor and he did. Everything was great. He told me exactly what he was gonna be doing, and he did a great job. I'm very pleased. We have two units in our house so, the second one left some rooms that were still cool for the pets to stay in. He then turned it back on 36 hours later and it was working just fine. George, the repair guy, came out and looked at it. He said it probably had something to do with the storm because he couldn’t see any issue. So, all’s well that ends well. The same guy has come out before for our central air unit and our mini split in the garage and he was great. He fixed things that others messed up. We had several issues and one of the biggest ones was that we couldn't turn off our water. The valve was broken when we tried to turn our water off. We had to call the city in and ask them to turn the water off. We were afraid that it was probably not a good thing because if we had an emergency, we would want to be able to shut that off in the house. The holding tank was also really damaged and it was causing issues with the flow of the water through the house.
I call Home Shield and tell them my problem to submit a claim. They usually tell me what they will cover and then we cover the rest. But the first representative I talked to regarding this was not really informed about plumbing. She didn't quite understand what was wrong so I had a hard time explaining it to her. But it was not a big deal because they still got the claim and we still got Modern Plumbing. And once the plumber got on with another representative with Home Shield, things got explained a little better.
When the contractor came in, he took a look at what he needed and then left because he had to go get the right parts. He couldn't get on those parts that Friday but he came back the following Monday and fixed everything. He got everything done in a timely manner and everything has been really good since then. In fact, he really helped us because we had two things that we didn't even know about. Our water pressure was way too high and he adjusted that for us. It seems that it saved us a lot of money because we were blowing out sprinklers and we couldn’t figure out why. And then he also turned down the heater because it was running overtime. So he taught us a lot. The gentleman was great.

I have two different houses, one in Texas and another one in Virginia. In Texas, when I called American Home Shield about the washer, the guy who came did not explain anything. He said he did it and left. He didn’t even check everything and then it was leaking. So we called Home Shield again and they sent him back and did perfectly nothing. He said, “Oh you guys have to clean this up.” The issue wasn't resolved and the washer is still leaking. But if I keep calling, then they will keeping charge me more and more, so I didn’t wanna call. Then another experience was with the garbage disposal. The guy came and said he will call Home Shield but did not say anything to us. I don’t know what kind of report he gave to Home Shield, and they denied to replace the thing. When I called that company, they said they will charge me $500 to replace it. I told them I won't be paying anything and so I replaced it by myself. I was very dissatisfied.
On the other hand, I had one good experience here in Virginia. We noticed that there was no hot water coming out so I put in a claim online for American Home Shield. They sent out Bud Hypes and they were great. Whatever they said, they did it on time. They were supposed to come one day, but then they called us because they got stuck somewhere. The technician who came out for out AC said it wasn't blowing and replaced it. Now the AC works. The plumbing has been good since the repair too. American Home Shield sent out RC Appliance for our washing machine. When we put our load in the machine, it would make a sound like there was a brick in there and then it started leaking water. So, when the service guy came out to take a look at it, he took off the panel and he saw that the shocks were broken. I have a front loader and because the shocks were broken, therefore, the tumbler was hitting the top part of where my soap dispenser was at. That was where the water was leaking through onto my floor.
I went online to submit the claim on my washing machine, but I couldn’t just go to the website and look for it. I went through a few months where everything was breaking in my house and a few months before the claim on my washing machine, my dryer had to get done. So, I ended up looking through the email for my dryer, and that was how I ended up clicking to do another claim. So, I couldn’t really find it on the website. Other than that, I absolutely loved the technician that came out. If I had any other issue, I'd tell AHS in the comments, “Can you please get this company to come out?” because the company before them sucked. I had my washer done. The tech came out, parts were ordered, and then he came back out within the next two days.
When my dryer was getting fixed, they kept sending the same guy out, and he kept saying they didn't have the parts. So, then, it would take a week for the part to come in, and then he would come back out. They were ridiculous. I was not happy with that company. It took a month to get my dryer fixed. And then after that, he “fixed it.” But when I went in to just check it really quick, it was still making the same noise. I called them back in. He’s like, “Well, I don’t know what’s wrong with it.” So I said, “I’m paying you to fix it, so figure it out.” Everything’s great now. The washer and the dryer are working great.

I'm pleased with American Home Shield's service. Anytime I call with any issue or any complaint, the matter is taken care of in a very timely manner. I normally call and let them know that I’m having an issue, and they assign someone to me. Once they assign someone to me, the assigned ones contact me within 24 hours. I submitted my most recent claim on an air conditioning issue. It was freezing and there was an accumulation of water deposit in the base of the unit. When I filed the claim, I told AHS not to assign the last person that was at my house because I was not pleased with him. They complied and did not assign him to me, so I appreciate that.
My AC unit has been excellent since the repair. I was told what could possibly be wrong with the unit, and it was fixed without any extra out of pocket expense to me. The contractor that was sent was wonderful. I don’t know anything about the unit other than purchasing it a couple years ago. It was a brand new unit, so I try to keep it updated and do everything I need to do. He told me that the best way to ensure anything like that is to keep the filters clean and if I see it freezing, I should call someone immediately.
