We have had American Home Shield for about 2 years now, and they are an effective repair option for ordinary repairs and issues that are not very complicated. However, the repair of either more expensive appliances (i.e. Viking) can be very problematic. In September our Viking Professional Electric Range had one burner on top out. We contacted American Home Shield, who sent out a company to repair our range. That company came out, attempted to repair the one burner, and instead shorted or damaged all 4 switches and burners so that the cooktop was not functional at all.
American Home Shield said if it was not possible to repair it, they would offer us a buyout to cover replacement. This is a $6000-7000 appliance, so it's not cheap to replace. The buyout offer was around $1500-2500. I thought they would offer more as their repair contractor was the one who destroyed the other burners rendering it a problem.
We found another local appliance repair company with more experience with Viking products, and they came out to assess the appliance. They indicated it was repairable for about $1000-1500. When I called AHS delighted to be able to repair it instead of replacing it, I was given a huge runaround and told that the only option was buyout now. Why would they only offer buyout instead of repair? The repair is cheaper for them and for us, and they have previously always offered to pursue repair as opposed to replacement. I've been on the phone for 1.5-2 hours now, most of it spent on hold waiting to speak to someone, and I have been transferred 3 times.
I am normally very fair and understanding when it comes to this process with home warranties, but I cannot believe the runaround I'm getting and the wait times I'm experiencing to talk to someone who can fix this issue. My recommendation is that instead of paying for AHS, just set aside that money per month towards repairs and replacement. If you include the $75 or $100 service fee they charge for having a contractor come out and assess, you would probably cover the cost of repairs with that money. If they respond to this and attempt to resolve it, I'll be happy to re-evaluate my experience with this company. But I am not hopeful.
Good afternoon Puneet,
Thank you for the feedback regarding your experience with American Home Shield to have the range repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issue as well as make sure they have been resolved.

I made a claim through American Home Shield for our air conditioning unit. I submitted it over the phone and a technician came out here, looked at the AC and identified the problem within minutes. He fixed it and it worked. So far, everything worked as it should.

The fan of our air conditioner was working and would come on, but there was no cool air coming out. I submitted my claim for it online to American Home Shield. I spoke to their reps before and they were courteous. However, they had my account number incorrectly so that got a little frustrating. It was just one number but I had to call several times to get my checking account straightened out. But as far as helping with any claims, my interaction with them was great. The technician that came out to do the AC repair was professional and they got in touch with me right away. However, we got stuck on Labor Day weekend so we had to wait a little bit over that. Otherwise, I like AHS 'cause I had been told before that the air conditioner unit could not be fixed, so the technician came in and looked at it. American Home Shield has done really well for me and I would recommend them.

We were having trouble initially to get the furnace to come on and I called American Home Shield to make a claim. Phoenix Plumbing & Heating responded and they were timely. They were very friendly and professional. They removed and replaced the thermostat. The furnace came on, but then, a couple of days later, we could not get it to work properly. We did a recall and had them come out. Apparently, there was a motherboard that needed to be replaced. They fixed the problem and everything's working fine now. If for any reason I have an issue, I have them on my call list and I would not hesitate to call them. I love my American Home Shield and I would be more than happy to recommend them.
I am happy to hear that we have resolved your issue Robert. Thanks for being apart of the AHS family. Have an amazing week.

I’m glad American Home Shield was part of my buyer’s package on my house because they've been very efficient. I’ve used them a couple of times and I appreciate saving money on repairs that needed to be done. It was definitely worth it. Being in a new area and not knowing anybody, it's very valuable having it. Every technician that’s come over has been super. It took them within a day or two at the most to get them out and they're professional and courteous. Navigating through the website when submitting the claims online was good as well.

I called AHS to submit a claim for my washer and microwave. Their rep was super professional. They gave me a contact from Baltimore or Maryland which I called. They told me they couldn't get to me for 10 days so I called American Home Shield right back, and the lady gave me somebody else that was working on Wilmington. She gave me their number and she contacted and gave the contractor my number as well. They contacted me, then we talked. It took the contractor a day short of a week to come. His professionalism was great and everything has been operating perfectly since the repair.
But the problem was that the other guy that they canceled tried to come too and billed American Home Shield that's why my bill was for $150, when it should be just $75. I was really shocked. I told the lady to investigate them because there's no telling how many people he's done that to. The lady put me on hold and called the other people that said the contractor came out. She said that she just got off the phone with them and said that he did come out. I said, "That man is an absolute liar because he never came to my home." American Home Shield is still billing for both and I've been calling since forever but nobody has been answering the phone. But other than this billing situation, I was very satisfied with the experience.

I submit claims over the phone and the representatives are pleasant. They understand what I ask them. Appliance Services took care of my dryer this last time and another time, they took care of my washer. They had excellent service. For this last claim, the technician came right out and Bruce was very nice. The washer and the dryer are great now. Everything's working. American Home Shield is very good and I highly recommend them.

The guy came out, dealt with it right away, and did a very good job. He was very professional, very respectful, and I would gladly get him again. I’ve only had that one claim but I haven’t had any complaints yet.
Good afternoon Lawson,

If you call American Home Shield and you want to talk to a technician or discuss whether or not you need to have them come out, there’s nobody there to discuss with. They just want your credit card and $75 and they just want to send somebody. Then the technician have to order a part and have to come out again. But overall they have been good.

We had some fixture issues as well as some switch issues. I called American Home Shield directly to file a claim. The representative that I got was fine, but it took me about three times to get to someone in a matter of days because they were having system issues. They couldn't pull up my account information, so it took me around four days to initiate a claim. And every time I call American Home Shield, I could be on hold for an extended period of time. I’ve had other warranty companies and AHS is, by far, the worst. But it did not take that long at all for them to send the contractors out to our home. The contractors were fantastic too. I had used State Electric before in my other property and they were pretty expedient. They sent the same individual and he was great. His service was very professional. He was very thorough and he got right to work. Everything has been fine since the repair.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my HVAC system online and their site was good. The contractor who came looked at the system, figured out what part they needed, ordered it, came back a couple of days later and fixed the system. Since then, it's been working great. I’ll tell others that it would work well to use AHS for a home warranty.

When I bought this house, I went with another company because I didn’t think they would take care of our house. It wasn’t maintained. The other company was terrible compared to American Home Shield. And then, as soon as my year was up, I went back to American Home Shield. When my washer wouldn’t turn on, I filed a claim over the phone. Sometimes I'm on hold for 10 minutes, but otherwise, it was easy. The issue t turned out to be a breaker problem in my electrical box so the washer guy didn’t fix it. AHS then sent an electrician out and fixed it. I have recommended AHS to friends.

American Home Shield usually amazes me. In some ways before I call them, I'm thinking that they're not gonna help us, but they always do. We had issues with our AC a couple of times and we submitted our claim online but then we ended up calling too because it was easier telling them about the issue over the phone. But for all the times that we called them, our experience was good. We had a very big problem, however, with one of the contractors. Most of the time when they came out here, they didn’t care and they just wanted to Band-Aid everything. So finally, after a while of going through the chains of who we had to call, AHS decided that they were gonna turn around and sent out a different contractor which we had better luck with. After the third guy came out here and did everything, the AC had been working perfectly.

The garbage disposal wouldn’t work. You could flip the switch on the wall and it would make the noise, but you could tell nothing was spinning inside. It sounded like it was stuck to begin with and I tried to reset it with the switch on the bottom and there was nothing. I spoke with the contractors, but they called me after they got the appointment notification and they wanted to know what model I had at the present. So, when I got home, I read off the serial number to them so they could determine what model number it was. They said they would have one on the truck just in case it had to be repaired based on how long we had had that one in the house because they have a history of going bad after X amount of time.
The technician came and the machine was shot so he had to call American Home Shield and get authorization to replace the unit. They kept him on the phone forever so it seemed like it took an eternity to get this done and I felt bad for him because it was raining heavily the whole time that he was out there. Nevertheless, we have not had any problems with AHS. They were great about paying the claims and getting things done in a timely manner.

The icemaker in my refrigerator quit working. I submitted the claim for it online and it was okay. Going online is easier than trying to get somebody on the phone there. However, sometimes, they do not have enough choices for the problem. There were not enough details about it. Nevertheless, the contractor who came out was very good. They had to order parts because they did not have anything in stock, so we had to wait. We waited for two weeks for the repair. Then they had to replace the icemaker, so everything has been great now. I like their warranty. Go ahead and get it.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield on a weekend. I contacted the contractor Monday to make sure that they got the information from American Home Shield and they did. The lady then set up an appointment for the following morning. A young man came and he was prompt, friendly, polite, and efficient. He found out that the pump had gone bad and he fixed it. I was very pleased with him.
I have been with American Home Shield for quite a long time now and whenever I've had them, they've fixed the issue. I've had them also replace my garbage disposal. There was one time though that I had a problem with an electrician. Other than that, American Home Shield has been okay. I recommend them and I will stay with them until I’m not okay with them.

I have a dishwasher that I requested service for at the beginning of August (it is now mid-November and still not repaired). The repairman came, told me he had to order the part. 3 weeks later the part was delivered. He came back and told me it was cracked. Then he reordered it. Same thing happened 2 more times. Finally the part arrived and it was not cracked, but he realized that he can't fix it because he needs to schedule a plumber to chain the pipe under the dishwasher to a flexible hose. It has been 4 weeks since the new part came to my house. They still have not scheduled the plumber. I called AHS, and after being on hold for an hour... I finally get the Indian customer service rep... If he says he's sorry one more time... He promised that the plumber would call to schedule within 3 business days. That was 3 weeks ago.
I called to cancel my policy today. Was on hold for 45 minutes... And the customer service rep said he has to transfer me to the cancellation/retention department. After being on hold for an additional 20 minutes, I get an automated message saying, "you have been on hold for greater than 2 minutes please go to our website and fill out an "e-contact" form and someone will contact you within 24 hours. I have searched their website and have not found any form to fill out. I am now going to try to cancel the payments through my credit card company. So that's the story with the dishwasher.
On November 5th, I called AHS for my dryer which stopped working. A rep from Express Appliance called the next day and left me a message to call back to schedule the appointment for evaluation of my dryer. FYI, this is the same company "fixing" my dishwasher. I have called and left 4 messages and have yet to have them schedule the evaluation. I have called in the morning, at noon, later in the day... You never get a live person only an automated message. I think AHS hires awful repair companies... They clearly are not getting paid enough money if they don't want to service AHS customers.
So basically AHS SUCKS... I have not had a dishwasher for 3 months and now have been without a dryer for the past 10 days. I want to get my money back from AHS and just call a local repairmen who can fix it and I would pay out of pocket. But I can't cancel my policy because they make it very difficult. HELP YELP. I would love to begin a class action lawsuit against AHS for months without service to appliances and a lot of aggravation for being on hold forever and being "sorried." Yes I know that is probably not a word, but I can't hear another "I'm sorry" one more time.
I apologize for the inconvenience Karen. We will have an associate reach out to you about your experience.

In October of 2018, I called to request service on the central air and heater in our house. The pilot light would not stay on. They sent out an technician from a local company and he said that he had fixed it. On November 1 of this year I tried to put on the heat and found the pilot light off once again. I relit it and waited for the furnace to cycle off. The pilot light went off once again.
I called AHS to have them send the technician back and he tried to relight the pilot and the furnace exploded. He was injured but not seriously. He "condemned" the furnace and said there was a crack in the heat exchanger and we would need a new furnace. That was almost more than 10 days ago and we are still without heat and the nights are below freezing. I've tried to call and speak to AHS only to be told that the wait is "over 1 hour" on hold. This has happened repeatedly. I spent 30 minutes at the AHS website and was unable to find a way to e-mail the company.
I received a phone call today from the heating company who said that they were told that AHS has still not ordered the new furnace that I need. This is now 2 weeks without heat. I believe that AHS is acting in bad faith and is not available to answer my questions nor hear my complaints. They are minus 0 for customer support. I wonder if they are dishonest as well. I will quit this program as soon as possible.
I apologize for the inconvenience Jerry. We will have an associate reach out to you about your experience.

AHS promises great service but has not provided same for me, despite being a customer for over fifteen years. I put in a request for service on October 11, 2018 (over one month ago) for a broken over-the-counter microwave. A contractor arranged by AHS came out October 16 and determined two parts were needed but stated that AHS would only authorize one part per visit. It took over two weeks for the part to be delivered to the contractor and for the contractor to come out. On November 9, the contractor came out, installed the new part, and reiterated that a second part was necessary and had to be ordered.
AHS claimed on November 14th that the contractor did not order the second part, and attempted to contact the contractor but no response. I left messages for the contractor yesterday and today - no response. I was on hold with AHS for over one hour today, called back again and was advised by recording that the hold time would be more than one hour. No option to leave a call back request. Thanksgiving is one week from now and I have little hope that AHS will complete the repair or honor its contract. Very disappointed in the lack of service, the lack of communication, and the breach of contract.

My hot water heater went out for probably the 5th or 6th time today. The technicians AHS sends out have said over and over it should be replaced, but AHS refuses and just keep "fixing" it over and over again. I have a 5 year old who vomited all over my house today and I NEED hot water, as I have a 1 year old I am trying to keep from getting sick as well. Over 35 minutes on hold and we can't get anyone to help us until tomorrow after lunch. I have 3 children, vomit everywhere and no hot water for 48 hours. If the water heater were replaced long ago when it should have been, we would not be in this situation right now. I asked for service on my furnace and unfortunately it was on a Friday. I had two small children staying the weekend, and my furnace went out Friday morning. It was 35 degrees in my home!!! I requested service in the morning and nothing happened!!! I called AHS when I got home from work because they had left a message. I stayed on hold for nearly 25 minutes and when I finally got someone, they could barely speak English! I explained that I needed someone to come out and look at my furnace, that I had two small children in the house for the weekend, and it was 35 degrees! The rep said they could find no contractor. Said they would continue to try and call the next morning. Got a call at 8am and was told that Rosenthal Heating would be calling me within a half an hour. I waited an hour or more with no call, so I called back to AHS. I waited another 35 minutes for someone to answer.
Finally someone did and again could barely speak English. I told her I wanted to speak to her supervisor or manager and she hung up on me!! I called again and waited again a substantial amount of time, and again someone who could barely understand answered. I again asked for a supervisor and they told me that no one was available. I went ahead and explained that this Rosenthal Heating was supposed to have called me (and by the way I called them) they told me that no one from AHS had called them and if I wanted service on a Saturday that I would have to pay an additional $175 for him to come or wait until Monday when it wasn't over the service fee!! I explained AGAIN that my house was freezing, small children at home etc. No caring response!!!
I asked about going out of the plan since AHS could not find a contractor for me. I was put on hold for 21 minutes and when they came back was told that it was up to me to find someone who would accept the job, but I would have to pay up front and service fees, then turn in the bill and IF it was approved, I could get reimbursed. The contractor put a temporary fix on the furnace so I at least had heat for the freezing children and myself, but said that my furnace needed a part replacement that he didn't have available on his truck and he said his company would not make the deal to get paid with AHS because they had gotten burned on the bill several times previous. He suggested that I have them send another contractor out to replace the part I needed so it would be covered under the contract I have with AHS.
Since the weekend nightmare, I have been trying to get them back on the phone to explain that I want reimbursement on the billing for the other company to come out and I also still need a contractor to come out and I didn't want it to be Rosenthal because they were so rude to me when I called them and so unsympathetic about the fact that I needed to have the problem taken care of ASAP.
My furnace is still not repaired and I just don't have the time to continue to wait on hold forever. They have no email way of contacting anyone and NO ONE in the vicinity either. When I have more time, I will continue to try and get a hold of these people, but in my opinion they need a customer service staff that understands what it's like to be freezing in your own home and have your hands tied dependently on someone else. I essentially paid for a service that never happened, paid additionally for one that did, and I still don't have a completely repaired appliance.
Hello, Pat. I apologize for the issues that you endured while trying to get the service you needed. I will be reaching out to you directly today to offer direct assistance.

I recently purchased an AHS policy with my first home to provide a little peace of mind. Unfortunately, shortly into my home ownership there was a stoppage in the drain line for the washing machine. After it was clear that I was not going to be able to fix the problem myself I contacted AHS; who promptly sent a service company out to address the problem. The representative from this provider spent a grand total of roughly 15 minutes attempting to "fix" the issue and told me that AHS would have to send a second company out. The next day the second service company arrived and performed the identical task with the same level of success. The second service provider proceeded to tell me that the drain line was collapsed and that AHS would not cover the line. He also informed me that he could perform the work to address the issue for a sum of money but unfortunately AHS would not cover this work.
I declined his offer and had a 3rd party who is not affiliated with AHS come by to diagnose the issue. This individual performed the same task as the first two but with one major difference... It worked. I contacted AHS to discuss the situation and the invoice from the 3rd party. Unfortunately, after an afternoon of waiting on hold and being hung up on twice by AHS representatives I decided to move on with my day and the issue is still pending. I would strongly recommend thinking twice when considering the service. The providers sent out by AHS have no incentive to actually fix problems. Their only incentive is to get as many "service requests" as possible and to sell you non-covered items (not a terrible business plan). Cheers, I hope me taking the time to rant prevents someone else from a similar experience.
Hello, John. I apologize that your issue was not resolved through our service contractors. I would like to discuss the situation further and also see what can be done about reimbursing you for the cost you paid out of pocket.

We have had AHS for 2 years. The first year was ok with them coming out to fix a minor plumbing problem as well as some minor heater issues. Fast forward to this year and we have not had a working dishwasher since AUGUST. It is now November 14th. You can never get someone on the phone and all you get is the runaround. First, they assigned us to a contractor that no longer existed. It took weeks to get that straightened out before they assigned us to a new one. We have had techs out 4 times and they finally told us 2 weeks ago they would just have to replace the dishwasher. Where is it! Every time we call AHS they blame it on the contractor, we call the contractor and they don't call back. We are having 50+ people in our house for Thanksgiving with NO DISHWASHER and the WORST customer service from AHS.
We also had major issues with them after a suspected gas leak. Peco came out and said they suspected there was a problem with our furnace and shut the gas off. We call AHS and tell them there is a furnace problem and what do they do, they send out an air conditioner guy. He couldn't help. It then took 2 weeks of constant phone calls before the right tech was sent. We were without gas and hot water for 4 weeks for a repair that consisted of a tech cleaning out a clog with a freaking paper clip. Why??? Because of the incredibly poor service provided by AHS. I am telling everyone who will listen not to waste your time. If your concern is running into an unexpected expense, places like Horizon now have payment plans. Don't get ripped off by someone who will take your money and not provide any service. We are also filling a BBB complaint to see if we can finally get a working dishwasher.
Good afternoon John,
I understand your concerns regarding your experience and most certainly hate to hear about the delay in service. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with a resolution to the dishwasher repairs.

One time, my clothes washer was wobbly and was making a lot of noise. I filed a claim to AHS and the tech they sent came and adjusted the height. He then said it was okay. However, it was never okay. We managed, but the problem was not resolved. We were told to separate all kinds of clothes and that’s not the way we do laundry, so the washer is still a bit off. If the tech comes out, I’m not going to get a different answer, so we did not get back to American Home Shield. If somebody could contact us regarding the washer, we will be more specific.
The contractor was average and we trusted him because we are not the experts. It was a balance problem. First, he thought it was a problem with the machine, then he said it was the height, so he adjusted the leg. Then, he said that I had to separate all the clothes so that it would be even. We tried to do that, but it was still the same after he left. While the tech was there, it looked reasonable because there was not much going into the wash load. A common wash load is going to cause problems. We noticed that we can solve the problem by inserting stuff down, but still the problem was not solved. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for my ice maker and everything with the claims rep went smoothly. The contractor called me that day and set up an appointment. When they came out, they explained to me what the problem would be, what was going on and what it would take to fix it, if they had to order a part or whatever they had to do. And now, the ice maker is working. I would advise people to have American Home Shield. The warranty is valuable for me because I’m 80 years old and we need somebody to come by and help.

We had a stove that would start sparking every time we turned it on but it wasn't lighting. It was almost like the circuit board seemed to be bad. American Home Shield sent a contractor out and they were great. They were in contact with me then they came out and diagnosed the issue. When they got the parts that they needed, they came right back. The longest part was waiting for them to actually get the parts in and getting the repair done ended up as about two weeks. But now, we can light our stove a lot easier than we were able to before. That contractor has actually been out to my house before for other stuff and I've never had a problem with them. Overall, I'm fairly happy with American Home Shield. I would like it if the monthly cost of the warranty were a little bit down but I guess, it makes sense if I'm repairing a big appliance.

My dishwasher was filling up with water, and the water was not properly pumping out of the dishwasher. My mother had to manually pump the water or dip the water out and I decided that it was something that somebody needed to figure out why it was doing that. I went online on the 18th and submitted my request for service to American Home Shield. I did not get a response at all but I was wondering why I got an email saying that the service request had been received. I was also told one group of people would be contacting me within 24 hours but that person that they were saying in the email never contacted me so I thought that it might be an issue with my phone. I have my home phone and was in the process of changing phones so I gave them that.
I went and looked online, and saw something from Sears. I called the number that was there. The person who answered the phone at Sears had no idea who I was and was asking me for information that I couldn't provide. It wasn't on my account so I ended up having to call American Home Shield on the 23rd of October and got someone to finally get through to Sears and have them come to my house to look at my dishwasher.
They finally came to my home on Wednesday, October 24th. The guy came to my house, looked at my dishwasher and said that it needed a part replacement. He said he called and got approval on the phone to order the part. He did that and left me with the receipt which I have in my kitchen drawer in case I have to refer to it. He said it would take him two weeks to come back. I was disturbed by that and he said that was his schedule and I noted on my calendar that November 8th was the earliest he could get back.
November 8th came and went. I waited for the part and watched for it. I was told that the part was gonna come to my house, but it never came. Right now, we are washing dishes by hand. If I have company over, it's a lot of dishes and no place to put them. I have to wash them little by little to get rid of them so we resorted to paper plates and forks until we can get our dishwasher fixed.
I called to check and see what was going on. I ended up speaking to Lan and all he told me was that they have 21 business days to order the part but no one told me that. I tried to get some understanding from Lan and all he did was dictate to me what she was reading and what Daphne at Sears was telling them. I asked to speak to a supervisor, so she gave me Christina. Christina looked and said that Sears went out to one buyer but they no longer carry and cannot supply the part. They had to go out and find another buyer. I was questioning what they were doing and I was asking why I had to wait. We got into a discussion about waiting 21 business days. My account online still says, "October 23rd, reviewing for repair approval." Nothing was updated and that was unacceptable. She said she was gonna call Sears and talk to them on what else can they do and what else can they offer me if they can't get the part.
American Home Shield was putting everything on Sears. We went back and forth for a minute. Christina said she would call me back the very next day. She would get in touch with Sears and find out the status of finding a part. Then, the 21 days changed to 14 to 21 business days. 12 business days would have been Friday, November 9th. She said she would call me back but I didn't hear from her. On the 9th of November, still didn't hear from her. I called back the beginning of this week and talked to Gary. After I got off the phone with them, I saw where there was a little box where you get live communication, so I decided to get on that box.
On the 17th of November, I was online with Christina for 1 hour and 20 minutes trying to get this cleared up. With Gary, I was online for almost an hour. They put me on hold and left me, hoping I would just hang up and go away, but I didn't. When I got off the line with Gary, he was telling me that I would have to talk to his legal department to file a complaint. I saw live chat so I got on and spoke to Maribel. She worked with me, but I told her the runaround I was getting and I couldn't file a complaint or go beyond this people. I went on and filed my complaint with my Attorney General to let my Attorney General in Ohio get through to somebody who would get through to American Home Shield and make them understand what I was dealing with.
As it stands today, Maribel says she would look for the part because they, at American Home Shield, could look for the part I needed for my dishwasher. It would take them three to five business to find it. At this point, I have to assume that my dishwasher is not gonna be ready for me for Thanksgiving and I'm gonna have to eat at my sister's house. I'm still waiting for somebody at this very moment, to get back to me about the part that needs to be put into my dishwasher. Christina did email me back again but I'm almost ready to move to the next home warranty people. My first experience with them was when my tub was stopped up. A man came the same day, got it fixed, and I haven't had any problems since. So, I was pretty good. However, this diminished their rating with me and I'm almost ready to move to the next home warranty people.

We've used American Home Shield’s service a few times, and we like it and have recommended them. Recently our rental company called AHS because the AC on our home out in Arizona was down. Then AHS called us to verify that we wanted to do the repair and how to pay for it. The technician then called me and tell me what the situation was and what they could do with it. He was very helpful, gave me some options, and we went with the best option and went forward with that one.
There was potentially a leak in the system. But he said, “We don't want to take this off 'cause we had to do this whole testing, and it could be off for a couple of days while we're testing for leaks. So, let's repair it, get the coolant back in, and then in springtime, presuming that we have this leak still, then that's the time to take this down and look into it and try to repair it.” So far, the AC’s been working fine. AHS is worth every penny. Going with them would cost you at least $150 service call versus the $2,000 to repair the furnace right now.

I had some problems with the light switch in my house. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. I called American Home Shield to file the claim and the representatives were okay. But it was back and forth. They give you 24 hours for them to notify the next person and then the next person gives you 48 hours before they send the repairman out. It just took time. It was a three-day process.
The second electrician they sent out was good but the first one wasn't. The first electrician took the light switch cover off and then did something. Then he tried the switch and the light went on. So they said that it was the dimmer in the switch that was causing the problem. So they just put in a regular switch with our dimmer, which was okay. But the second time I used the switch, it didn’t work at all. So I had another electrician come out and he figured out it was a wiring situation. He was really great. He was very friendly and nice.

I had a good experience with my water heater claim with American Home Shield. It wasn't functioning properly, so I filed a claim online and then they called me the next morning. They offered to send a contractor out that day, but I wasn't available, so they sent someone out the following day. The tech who came was very pleasant and very much so on time. It was replaced quickly and has been performing very well since.
However, my other claims with American Home Shield have not been pleasant lately. I have a claim with our heater that wasn't working and it was opened a week and a half ago, but still hasn't been closed. The first contractor did not even show that they had a service report from us. When I contacted them after, I didn't hear from them in more than 24 hours, so I contacted American Home Shield. They said they would give me some information by the end of the day, which would’ve been last Friday. I didn’t get any information from them until Tuesday. Then another contractor was given the service call and they came out on Tuesday. But, they still have not finished all the work.

They had to come back and they did willingly and quickly. We were very pleased and my wife was very happy with the technician that came out. American Home Shield had one company come out for my washer and dryer but they didn't fix it. The guy that came out apparently replaced a belt, but either the belt wasn't the right belt and it snapped again, and the problem was worse than it was before he got there. I had to call another company and wait again. Hayes came out and did an evaluation. They had to order new parts and fix it. Everything was very well after that.
It has been a very easy process. I just called AHS and the rep takes care of it and all is good. The only problem is having to go through the system, things take longer to get taken care of than they normally would. And then say someone comes out and look at it, and then you're without whatever said appliances, and then you have to wait a week or so for action.

The company came out, did what they did, educated me on what I didn't know and fixed my AC unit.
But the dishwasher is still not fixed and I had to go to a laundromat and wash my clothes for $78. We started the claim in September and October has passed now and then November so it's been almost about a month and a half. Communication is not a good key and I have to constantly call back to figure out what's going on. The reps have told me that the person wasn't coming today to provide the parts. So the gentleman who came only talked about the dryer and then the dishwasher.
Every week, they send me an invoice even though they did not fix the dishwasher and dryer. They also sent a couple different vendors who tried to charge me different times which was not even explained to me so it was not a good experience. Also, every time one technician comes, they would give him the wrong information and he couldn't do anything and then, he has to come back after 10 days.
We're paying on a monthly basis and we're expecting that AHS is going to contact the vendors to assist us. The back and forth was the negative around it and I and my husband are not gonna refer anybody to AHS. We had them before and we didn't have this issue. I have had this home warranty service for over 3 years and I'm not happy with it at all. The basics are that phoning in emergency calls can take hours at best (in the military so not usually an option) and there is no way to make an emergency claim online. This ended up costing me thousands for a covered claim because they took days to get to my rental. In addition, the plan auto renews and the premium charged increases because they put a dirty little clause in the contract saying they can auto renew the contract. I submitted several polite emails to the company asking to work through the issues I had but they aren't responsive after a year and a half. I really do hate to say this but they are probably one of the worst companies I have worked with. Do what you want but your money would be better spent elsewhere.

Up until this point, American Home Shield had been perfect. Everyone we've ever had to use had been reliable and trustworthy. But when my air conditioning quit working, I called American Home Shield and they sent out All Pro Air Solutions. And they just lie to you the whole time. They said I needed a new compressor which would come in three days and at the most, it would be five days. But the third and fourth days went by. On the fifth day, I started calling them but they wouldn't pick up. So I called American Home Shield and they said they would call the contractor. A few minutes later, the representative called back and said they had picked up. But she said that they never even ordered my compressor. The contractor said that the people who were here before did something to the unit and messed up. But that was a couple of years ago and it was somebody that American Home Shield also sent out.
He was trying to throw it back on the person who came before and messed something up. But were they ever gonna tell us? I never knew that and he just moved on. He should've just told me in the beginning that the air conditioning couldn't be fixed. We sat around for over a week, thinking our air conditioner was coming everyday. And he never even called it into American Home Shield. We were going on two weeks with no air conditioning in August in Texas. I am 73 and my husband is 75. It was so hot that we could barely breathe. We had to go buy a window unit to put in the house so that we could sleep. I didn't even get to use American Home Shield.
I've even come to find out that the guy has done this to other people in Lufkin and he's not even from Lufkin to start with. He's from a small town in this area. What they do is they come out and collect their $75 for their visit. They did the same thing to Jamie, my niece, and to the sister of the girl who cuts my hair. American Home Shield is losing people in Lufkin because of these people. My sister-in-law is a realtor and she said that All Pro was why she dropped American Home Shield. Jamie is her daughter and that's also why Jamie dropped American Home Shield.
But this is the only time we have ever had any problem with American Home Shield. We've had Truss & Son Plumbing and they are wonderful. If we have a problem, Truss comes and they are always A+. They are honest. In fact, if it wasn't for Truss, I wouldn't even have American Home Shield right now. But I know there's Old Republic and if I knew Truss does theirs also, I will change because of the experience with the air conditioning. I am very dissatisfied because I have never experienced anything like this before in my life. It was unbelievable. I'm sure American Home Shield knows about these people. I don't know why American Home Shield keeps using them.
I apologize for the inconvenience Patsy. We will have an associate reach out to you about your experience.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for an air conditioning problem and then Controlled Comfort came out. I would typically call the AHS number that I have whenever I file a claim. In fact, I have three AHS numbers and it appears that one of them gets me through faster to a direct person. I hope that there'd be clarity on which number is the best because the number I had in my packet was not the same as the one that gave me quicker service. There were times where I had to wait and then I just hung up because it was just too long. Now I know the number because I verified that the number the air conditioning company was using was different than the one I had in my phone.
On that call, it was a weekend and we were in Vegas with no air conditioning. I had to call back three times to get someone to come because we're in Nevada and apparently, it's a different zone for getting help. That was a number of months ago and at the time, it was a bit frustrating that I couldn't get sooner response, but not everybody works on the weekend, so they ended up giving me a second vendor that called me back right away. But it was my persistence that made that happen.
The company that came out had a recall several times because something didn’t get connected right. And then just more recently, we didn’t have heat. So, we've had multiple visits and Controlled Comfort was nice and always accommodating. This just happened on Monday. They came out and fixed the problem. But then AHS called and said, "This is a different issue, so you have to pay your other $75." It was a bit protracted and I don't know if it's just our unit but I'm past the stage of getting pissed off. I just want them to fix it. I almost was ready to call and ask for a different vendor, but I didn’t want to pay another $75 because that would have been the case. But at the end, they fixed it. It appears to be working fine and every time I've called them, they came right out.
The geographical area we live in has different demands on home system and I think AHS has different problems here. When our water purification went out, I found out they have a separate policy. I didn’t see it listed and I said, "Maybe we've got it in our AHS policy." And when I called AHS, they said, "No, that's a separate policy." So, I just had to pay $1,700 for a new water purification because it was leaking, but it was very old, so I knew we needed one but that wasn’t explained. At the end of the day, they got the problem fixed. Also, they're dealing with a call center and there could always be hiccups.

I put in a service request for our air conditioner that broke down and went rattling aloud. The contractor American Home Shield sent was very bad. They came and looked, and it didn't take so long when they said the repair was done. However, the problem wasn't solved. It came back. So, we called them back. But, every time I called them, they didn't pick up my call. I called back to American Home Shield and they also tried to get a hold of them but couldn't. So, American Home Shield had to move the service request to another contractor which turned out pretty good. They picked up my call and did a very good job. They were able to repair the AC. Other than that, it has been a good experience with American Home Shield. The only time I had a hard time submitting a request to them was when I was trying to get someone on the phone and I had to wait about an hour. The rest of the time, it’s been okay altogether.

I had a Bosch washer and it was leaking out the front door. The gentleman from American Home Shield came out and looked at it. We discussed and he felt that we needed a new gasket. I told him that I was going on a cruise and couldn't have it done until I got back. He was nice and told me he could handle that. Then, he forgot and called me while I was on the cruise but it was okay. I got in touch with him and we got it all set up for Monday. He was on the ball and when I let him know I was back in town, I got immediate feedback. He seems to be very helpful and I'm very pleased with him.
I have two policies and I submit claims online as it's easier than it is over the phone where I have to jump through too many hoops. But apart from that, I have had AHS for over 30 years and it has been a long relationship. I have them with five properties and they are always very pleasant to deal with. They're very knowledgeable and I enjoy working with them.

We had a dryer and an air conditioning issue. The line was blocked with our air conditioner so the condensation from the pipes were going and leaking through the furnace and to the basement floor. AHS sent a contractor and we've used this guy through them for 20 years so we trust him very much. He came out once and replaced something and tried to clean it out. But he did have to come out one more time and clean it out from the outside also and we haven't had a problem after that. The pump went out too. It had burned out after 16 years and he replaced that. Sometimes I go through online to file a claim. But I feel better about talking to an agent, especially when I want a certain contractor and most of the time it's Comfort Zone that I want. They're very dependable and they do all they can to try fix the problem. The AHS reps are also very nice and good.

The appliance was not fully cooling. It started cooling off and on, and it was something about regulating the temperature. I called in to claim and I immediately received a text message and an email, and then a phone call from AA Dependable Pool Appliance Service. The technician kept me fully aware of what was going on. They were pretty quick to call, pretty quick to schedule, and pretty quick to come out. They assessed the issue, diagnosed it, called and gave me an assessment of what the repair was gonna be, and gave me a ballpark on when it would be taken care of. It was resolved a little quicker than they anticipated. They got out and replaced the part, and went on their way. The unit's performance has been perfect since the repair. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

The air conditioner had a problem and we called American Home Shield. The claims was processed just fine but it took so long to get a vendor to come out. It wasn’t American Home Shield’s fault though. It was the vendor they used. It was right in the middle of summer when the air conditioner went out and although I understand some companies are busy, it unfortunately took us a week before someone could come out. Even trying to get a hold of them was a problem. When we finally got a hold of them, we were okay because they were very courteous and knowledgeable. But I don’t know if they’re not a big company. Unfortunately, they had to call back east to get a part and it took about a little over a week to get that done. They also issued the bill to American Shield and got it approved so they could purchase it, have it shipped and have it installed.
So it took approximately two weeks with that particular vendor to get us up and running again. I don't know if that’s average but being in the middle of the summer with kids, that was not good. In fact, the house was so hot that all the very expensive tropical fish in our big fish tank started dying. We had put bags of ice in the fish tank and we were trying everything to cool that down so that we wouldn’t lose more of the expensive fish. But unfortunately, we did lose quite a few of them.

We had air conditioning problems that went on for about three months. AHS kept calling people out, but they couldn't fix it. They had two companies tell them that we needed to replace it and they won't spend that money but they finally replaced the outside unit. And then we went ahead and paid to get the other one, because we were just tired of dealing with it. They replaced one section and we replaced another because this unit was called an Infinity by Carrier and we talked to several experts. If you replaced one of them that isn't compatible with that, it will just keep breaking so we ended up having to go with not as good a system.
Most of the time I call AHS to file a claim. I've also done online. They've been really quick about getting somebody to call us and the other claims that we've had other than the air conditioner, we didn’t have any issues at all. They had to replace a hot water heater. They've done a lot this year and have been very helpful. The technicians have been good. We live in a weird place. It's kinda in between lost and found, so it's harder to get people out here. The only really bad thing I had was one person, a contractor on the air conditioner said, they'd be out here and we had to wait a week.
They were Carrier people, so they should have been good. And then the day of the deal, they call and go, "Oh, we don’t service that area." So, we went a week without AC. I had AHS years ago and they were terrible but they're actually much better than they were. I would tell others to take AHS. It has been worth it to us. They replaced a lot of stuff. We bought this house and it's just been one thing after another.

We had a number of errors over the course of some of our work with American Home Shield. They contact the provider that they have contracted with, and they have them call us back within a very short period of time. However, they kept having different wrong numbers for us. I would get online, figure out which company it was, call the company and ask them if they were trying to reach us, and they would say, “Yes, we’ve called you three or four times. And we couldn’t reach you.”
Apparently, we have a number that doesn’t even sound remotely like any number that we have related to our family and we had a little bit of an issue with that. But the submission of the claim itself to AHS was easy. The technician that came out was very clear about what services were covered and which services were not. We also paid the $75, then AHS would pay afterward, which we also appreciated the clarity. The tech had to come back out, but it was resolved in the second visit.
However, we had a water heater before that was leaking all over our floor. We called AHS and they sent somebody out, but they didn’t like the bid that we put out there so then we had to start over again, over a $45 difference between his bid and the next guy’s bid. We felt like it would have been reasonable for AHS to just go, “Okay, These people want it done.” At the end of the day, they covered it and we didn’t have to pay for the repair.
It took us several days to get the tech out here. He had the wrong number and he kept calling and leaving messages to somebody who was the wrong person. When he finally came, he gave us a bid, he submitted it to the company, they didn’t like it, so we start with a new contractor, another day, another visit, another bid. We found the haggling to be something that perhaps is not in our best interest as customers and maybe in the best interest of the company in terms of bottom line. If AHS is there to serve us, and we’re not talking about a $300 difference or even a $100 difference, we really didn’t feel like $40 or $50 would add up. At times, it gets complicated but in the big picture, we found AHS to be worthwhile. Our home came with the home warranty and we were happy enough to continue.

Filing a claim online with AHS seems a little easier for me than doing it over the phone 'cause I use the computer a lot so I just click on there and be done. Usually, I would have somebody call pretty quickly so they’ve been pretty good and prompt. Recently, our outside AC unit had a relay assembly inside that was shorted out and the compressor wouldn't keep on. The contractors seemed to know what they were doing and have been really friendly and professional. Since the repair, everything seems to be working well and not leaking.

When we bought the house, the first thing that went out was the fridge. AHS said that LG has to handle the compressor because the warranty is not out yet. I had to contact LG and it took me a while because they had one person available to fix the fridge. I had to contact the person and they wanted me to pay out of pocket. I talked to them because if I have an insurance company for something that is handling the situation, I don’t wanna be paying anything out of pocket as I already paid monthly payments over there.
AHS sent me a check and I paid from the check for that service with LG. But it wasn’t resolved until about a month. I did phone calls almost every day. There were a lot of people that were assigned to my case and they were pretty professional. However, the first tech that was sent out for the fridge wasn’t the right person and he didn't specifically answer all my questions. He just ran away and I had to chase him to ask something and in the end, the fridge was resolved.
Then a week down the road, the AC unit broke down. In the summertime in Arizona, it’s hard to have the AC unit off. The heat was over 100 degrees. I also had a couple people out for this case. The person that installed the unit went over it and said that it doesn’t seem like there is anything major. The units were fairly new. He gave me all the explanations to what can be in there. Then the contractor from American Home Shield came in after him. He started saying what was the issue, every next word from him was a lie. I know because the person from before explained everything to me. He even lied about the quantity of the Freon that needs to go inside. I called American Home Shield and said that I don’t wanna deal with him because I don’t like the way he communicates. I also don't like the way he wants to do his job, which was incompetent. Then a second person came out, looked professional and seemed like he fixed the problem.
But then, about a couple weeks down, the AC is still not cooling the house, so I called them again. Other than that, the AHS rep that was assigned to me was awesome. She was assigned to my first case, then I had a different person that was assigned to my second case with the AC unit. But that person just could not handle that situation, so all of a sudden, the other girl came out again. When she appears, everything gets settled.

We've had American Home Shield for less than a year now, and we can submit a claim either by phone or online. But if doing the claim online worked without us having to follow up, then that would have been better than calling in the claim. We called AHS when the air conditioning unit wasn't blowing cold air. There was a problem between AHS and the contractor in getting the work order squared away, which we ended up having to follow up to get expedited. Recently, the seal around my 1985 refrigerator in my garage started leaking and it got moisture in the refrigerator part. The guy when I submitted a claim reported that it was not repairable. They sent me a note that said since it was a side by side and gave me three different options of a GE Refrigerator. I did the research and decided to buy something locally. So yesterday, I submitted the receipt for the refrigerator that they brought today. Hopefully, the reimbursement would come within the next month. I also have an upstairs air conditioner that needs to be replaced but I was disappointed because they offered $4,000 to replace. When the stove in my rental gave out, I filed a claim online. The website was pretty user-friendly and I was cool with that. After that, the contractor called and gave me a time. The window was big. It was like 1:00 to 4:00. But I always explain to the contractor that I work and I ask if they can call me when they’re headed there then I can leave and drive. And I never have a problem. Surfside Appliance did that. They worked with me so I wouldn’t be sitting for hours. They were also polite and knowledgeable when they talked to me.
The technician explained everything and gave me options. But since it was an older stove, they said that it’d be cheaper to get it replaced than to actually fix it. I had to find options for the replacement oven myself though. It was a little bit intimidating for American Home Shield to tell me that I was the one who was gonna have to do that part. But once I did it, it wasn’t really difficult. I thought the smartest way was to go online and look for something that I like and is within a reasonable price. I didn’t run around the store. When we first called in, it was August the 25th, but it was on September the 13th that Comfort finally got fixed the AC. They were good but they had to wait for a part they ordered. They fixed the problem when they finally got it together. But we were without air for about two weeks during the summer so it was pretty hot.
Our pool is also covered under American Home Shield, and whenever we have something done with the pool, they do not send a swimming pool company to take care of it. I put in a claim for my water heater that was leaking. American Home Shield sent out a plumbing contractor to look at the heater. That was a week ago. The plumber asked to have the access to the water heater open; which I did. I also sent pictures. Then they asked to open the top of the access and an electrician. It cost me $300 to have someone open the wall up more for this plumber. In addition to the additional $360 I have to pay the contractor.
I called AHS and asked for another contractor; which I was advised would not be possible. Now I have a wall that was not initially damaged; with mold due to the humidity and more out of pocket cost. At this point, I could have purchased my own water heater and have it installed for the amount of out of pocket expenses I have incurred. Now the company is giving me a hard time with the cash out option. All I want is to get this resolved so that I can cancel my contract and go with a reputable home warranty company.

The plumber we called diagnosed our problem and ultimately decided that we'd need an entirely new hot water heater. My husband decided to call our home warranty company, American Home Shield, to get the heater replaced. He informed the service representative that he spoke with of our diagnosis, and we were told that they could not replace the heater until they looked at it on their own. That made sense to us, but we were also told that we would have to pay the service fee twice. The plumber came to inspect the heater and ultimately deemed that the hot water heater did need to be replaced, after all. However, he never submitted out job, leaving my husband and I with over a week wait to even get scheduled for another appointment.
We were finally about to schedule for another appointment for today, November 13, however, the service department failed to mention that the service tech who was handling our job was out sick. This is actually the third day that my husband has had to stay home waiting for this incompetent company to service our hot water heater. I contacted AHS about my refrigerator a couple months ago. They sent someone out to look at my fridge and I was told that they needed to order a part. I paid my deductible (not comfortable paying for a service before completion) and the service tech left. Fast forward a month and still nothing. I called AHS and was told that I needed to contact the repair company directly. I immediately contacted them. They told me they had contacted AHS but the part was not ordered. I was told the service company tried to call me, left several messages, and I didn't return their call. That was a blatant lie because I never had voicemail set up on my phone, and never missed a call from any unknown numbers. When I mentioned this to AHS I was told they would contact the repair company to have them order my part. Someone was to call soon to schedule my repair.
Let's fast forward yet again to another month later (last week). Now I'm told the part is on "backorder" and they aren't sure they even make replacement parts for my fridge any longer. After waiting over 2 months for the part to come in, I'm now told that it will be in on November 30th then they will call to make arrangements to install it. If I didn't want to wait 3 more weeks, they would be more than happy to give me $200 for replacement of my refrigerator. I've waited this long so I will wait until November 30th to see if I actually hear back from anyone about this mystery part that my refrigerator needs.
If it doesn't come in they are seriously offering about 8 percent of what I purchased my refrigerator for. If I would have known this from the beginning, I wouldn't have purchased this warranty. Who can buy a $2500 refrigerator for $200? Keep your money!! They don't care about the customer, they only care about the money they get. Used to be a great company, now it seems to be just as much of a scam as the others out there.

When our Gas Furnace stopped working last week I immediately contacted AHS and they scheduled an appointment with a company located in Snohomish, Wa some 60 miles away from where we live. It also would involve a round trip time-consuming ferry ride. When we had not heard back from them, I called them on Monday morning and was informed that they were not able to schedule a repair as it would require their technician to spend a half day on the job. Further that they had repeatedly told AHS that they would not handle repairs outside of their service area.
Considering that my wife and I are octogenarians and had spent the weekend freezing inside our very cold house I was very distressed when I called AHS repeatedly and was given different versions of how AHS would the issue: AHS “technical team” would expand the search area to find a repair facility. I would hear back within 24 hours with a phone call. I should find a licensed repair company of my choice and I would get reimbursed. When I asked HOW I would get paid, the response was I would get an email within - you guessed it - 24 hours. At this point I requested to speak with a supervisor and was then told by the rep that she would now send the email right away. Nothing arrived in my email inbox (yes, I checked the Spam folder). I think this is outrageous and I doubt that AHS will ever reimburse me.
Hello, Claus. I apologize that you and Mrs. Jenson have had to endure low temps during this cold snap. My daughter had two calls to American Home Shield to submit the claims and their reps responded very accurately. When our hot water heater did not have enough electrical power for the unit that was in there, we traded it out for a regular water heater. The contractors who did it were great. However, the furnace person was horrible and the repair was disappointing because when the contractor came, looked and turned on the furnace to lit the gas as it was a propane, my daughter immediately ran out and said that it was not right and it had to be turned off. We were told that the furnace just needs to be cleaned. He did not think it was dangerous. We had a couple other furnace people look at it but we hired a second person on our own and did not put a claim after.
The second person said that it was dangerous and the electrical was feeding and that the furnace needed to be upgraded. So, the electrical that I had them put in and inspected was not enough to do the furnace and the hot water heater. The electrical company that came out was wonderful. Now, we have a new furnace and air conditioner that should be okay with the warranty. Everything is great at this point. American Home Shield responded quickly but it was the vendor that was not responsive. I am glad we have the insurance and I have recommended them. We got a good response and it alerted us to make sure that everything is on track. If we didn't have the insurance, we may have let it slide to a point that it became an emergency instead of getting it done when we should have.

I was waiting for a person, and then, finally, I hung up. Then I went online and submitted the claim. They said Sears would be here today between 1:00 and 5:00. They confirmed everything. This morning, I decided to call Sears because I never heard from them, and they didn't know what my problem was. I thought I don't want the contractor to get here and say that they don't have the part. So, I called Sears and got a person but I could barely understand what he was saying. After 20 minutes of going back and forth, he checked but couldn't understand the numbers I was giving him. We had a staticky connection. Finally, he said that they didn't have the order, so I hung up with him.
I called AHS and I was on hold for 45 minutes and finally got to a person and explained the situation. The rep was very helpful and he checked on the order. And since I never heard from Sears and they don't have the order, the AHS rep said that he would put in an order to another provider, and then we got disconnected. Half an hour later, I got a call from Sears saying that they're going to be here today between 3:00 and 5:00.
20 minutes later, AHS called back, and the rep said that he got another provider for me. I told him that Sears just called me and said they could come today. And so he said he would cancel the other provider he found for me. I went around for three hours today trying to get this call clarified. Generally, the experience with AHS has been pretty good. I was a Realtor for 23 years, and I used to sell the AHS to a lot of my clients because I felt it was a very good program. I've had AHS for years here, and although we run into issues, especially when we get scheduled through Sears, on a whole, I've been pleased with it.

We had an electrical issue and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I went to their website, put in our information and somebody called. It wasn't even 15 minutes later when someone called and set things up. The tech came out here a day and a half after I submitted the claim and he was really good, and so was his quality of work. However, we're gonna have to contract out. It ended up that the outlet where our refrigerator was plugged into was not grounded and the coverage wouldn't cover that to be repaired, so we will have to pay that out of pocket. The tech was able to fix the issue temporarily but we're gonna have to get a new outlet that has a ground in it as the tech explained it. Nevertheless, we had an awesome experience with American Home Shield.

Recently, I called in two claims to American Home Shield and I was on hold for a long time but I’m used to it being in the military. Other than that, once they got on the phone, it was easy and interacting with the rep was great. Getting a contractor out was super quick. The air conditioning guys were good and they fixed a lot of stuff. However, it took an extra week to get my part for the air conditioning and the water guy didn’t have the right equipment so I had to get somebody else to come out. Since then everything looks great. AHS came with our house when we bought it, so we’re probably gonna end up buying another year of it once the time comes.

I've been very happy with American Home Shield so far. It's a very reasonable price for what they charge and everything we’ve done so far has been good. We had Sears before them, and it’s night and day over what Sears was. I recently made a claim over the phone for a dishwasher and everything was great. The tech came in, told us what was wrong, told us what we needed, told us what it cost and then fixed it.

Both times that I talked to the reps of AHS, they were great, easy to work with and very knowledgeable. However, the first contractor they sent from Sears, seemed a little rushed. He was allergic to cats and we have a lot of them because we deal with animal rescue. We always tell AHS when we make phone calls that if they have somebody that has allergies to animals not to send them, but they neglected to tell him that so it didn't work exactly right. The part they fixed worked fine, but the burner on the top of the stove was out of alignment. So I called them back and they sent somebody right back out. Everything is fine now. I would recommend AHS.

The home we bought in Columbus, Ohio had a pool and at the time when we first moved in, American Home Shield was the only warranty company that covered pool equipment. This was why we requested a particular insurance and continued with that. So far, every time we've had an issue, I'd give American Home Shield a call and they'd send someone right away to fix it. And although it would take a long time to get to a customer service person, their reps have been courteous. They'd take your information and then get in touch with the company. After that, the company would call you, set a time to come out, and look at whatever it is that's not working.
My only concern was the quality of the technicians. When something went wrong with our pool equipment and they sent someone out, we didn't know the quality of the company or the people that they've sent out. I've listened to different people who came to work on my house and I know that American Home Shield don’t pay their technicians what they would normally make if they went out on a house call. So, I'd question the company that would come and then do some research on them because you couldn't pick who would come out to fix your house.
American Home Shield does replacements if they can't fix the issue. One of the stipulations with them is they will replace whatever is broken with the same quality of what was there. However, there are limits to how much they will pay for certain things. We ran into that issue when we had to have our pool heater replaced. The gentleman who was at my house asked me if I know that I have a 33-year-old heater. I told him that I knew it was old. Then, he said that it was the best that I could buy at the time I bought it. But, when he found a heater to replace mine, American Home Shield said they are not gonna pay that much. They wanted to replace it with something of less quality than what we originally had put in. The people at the company they assigned to us were really good in supporting us. The gentleman argued with them. My husband got involved, too. It took a long time and some haggling until American Home Shield covered it.
But with our most recent claim, they did not want to cover it and I never understood why. We were selling our house and it came up in an inspection that we had a bad GFI. Within that claim, there was also a double tap. Because it was not working, they did not want to cover that. Yet, they said they only cover when something is not working, so I don't really understand. We had to pay for the person to fix that. Additionally, the charge is a little high. When we were first with them, it was a $50 or $60 charge. Now, it's $100 to come out. Nevertheless, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I have issues with my plumbing pipe. The reason I bought the AHS warranty was because I knew that my main shoreline was gonna have to be replaced in an area, and I asked that question when I bought, and they said, "Oh yeah." But now they tell me nothing outside as a foundation is covered. So I was just kind of a little disappointed about that because now, I have a $17,000 project I need to pay for and I don’t have a warranty for it.
Other than that I called AHS to have someone snake my plumbing lines because I had a backup. AHS told me they couldn't get them right there but within 24 hours, they were there. The guy they sent was very nice and very informative. AHS called me yesterday and said the company had contacted them and they were real nice because they asked if we would be covered and apparently AHS would. And when they were told it wouldn't be covered, they gave AHS the estimate price and then American Home Shield called me with that information. I had another claim about a month ago and it worked out really well too.
Hello, Barbara. I apologize that you were misinformed about the plumbing coverage and thank you for your positive feedback.

I started a claim for my water heater two and a half months ago and American Home Shield sent out a guy who I wasn't comfortable with. He recommended to replace it but he looked a little fishy and I wasn’t sure if he was able to finish the job or not. So, I told AHS to get a second opinion and they got another company out there, Tennessee Home and Appliance Repair. They were good, punctual, and told me what they'd do. They replaced the water heater but it was still leaking. They came out again and replaced the T&P valve, but the water heater was still leaking. Finally, the last time they were there, they replaced the pressure tank that went above the water heater and that stopped the leaking. So the work was complete and I was okay with the claim. All in all, I'm a real estate agent and I refer AHS to my clients. It is the best company around.

The recent claim that I had made with American Home Shield wasn’t very good and I was not happy with the services. The appliance was making noises like a train. It was very alarming and it scared the kids. It started gradually, once every few days, but it started to get worse where it was happening about 5 to 10 times a day, so I called AHS and explained that. They said that they were gonna charge me the $75 service fee and that Star Services would come out. I took an entire day off at work because Star Services would come between 9:00 and 1:00. They came out, but they were late. They didn’t show up until about 45 minutes to an hour after the allotted time, and they never called me. I was waiting to pick up my kids, so I was frustrated. They finally called and said that they were 20 minutes away and that they would be here.
As soon as they got here, they said that they don’t fix noises. I said that my insurance didn’t say that. I wouldn’t pay $75 if there was nothing that they could do. They said I had to wait for my appliance to break, and lose money with whatever food is in my fridge, in order for something to be fixed. They couldn’t even look at the refrigerator. I called and got my $75 back, but I was wondering what the point of the insurance was. I didn’t wanna lose money in my fridge because I always have a full fridge. The refrigerator was making a train noise, but they told me I had to wait until I lose money. In the last three years, anytime Star Services have come out, it has been a horrible service. They are always late and they never call me. They schedule an appointment and I have to keep calling them, so I don’t like dealing with them.
When I talked to the reps at AHS about getting my $75 back, they said they will have to pull the phone record to make sure that I was never counseled on that. Then, all of a sudden, I got my refund. I didn’t know that it was even a part of my contract. It was my fault for not knowing my contract completely, but when I explained what was wrong with the fridge, I should’ve been told that it was not covered.

Our AC was on the fritz. It wasn’t just turning on and staying on, it was having trouble also starting. We figured it was some sort of electrical issue and I ran that by American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online and it was very easy. They contracted somebody to come and take a look, and I received a call for the scheduling. It worked out fine and the contractor was someone local. They were great, very helpful, and insightful. They knew what the issue was most likely going to be, given the age of our unit, so they went with the most probable root cause of what was going on. After they replaced a part, which is a small electrical thing, we’ve had flawless usage of the air conditioning since then. We now have a wonderful AC. I don’t want anything else to break given the price. But if it did, then I could rely on American Home Shield easily.

Whenever I've had to submit claims to American Home Shield, I'd just call them up, and they've been able to set up everything and send someone right away. I had a plumbing issue with the sink wherein the water wasn't coming out and my garbage disposal also wasn't working. They sent out a technician. I asked him if there would be any fee involved and he explained it. He went into the bathroom and he said that there was a stoppage in the plumbing that was why the water wasn’t coming out.
However, when water was coming out slow in my Jacuzzi tub which seemed that there was a stoppage somewhere, they said the jets weren’t covered. I was very disappointed to hear that because the Jacuzzi tub was the main reason why I signed up with them. I felt that the jets were a main part of the Jacuzzi tub. They also told me that plumbing is covered, and to me, the jets are a part of plumbing.
Good afternoon Dennis,

I used to really love AHS. They had great customer service and the contractors always did a great job, until recently. My central air broke down towards the end of the summer, when the temps were at their highest. This was the 3rd year straight that it had broken down. For the last 2 years, AHS sent the same contractor named Airmax, but this year they sent a contractor called Speedy Heating and Air. Speedy came out, spent 5 minutes, said I had a Freon leak, claimed they fixed the leak, then asked for $400 to fill the Freon. I refused and I called AHS to complain. I asked them how could it be that for two years, Airmax has fixed my central air unit, but now I suddenly have this leak and all of my Freon is gone? The rep told me "I don't know. If they said you have to pay $400 then I guess you just need to pay $400". The way she was speaking to me, I had to ask her if she was part owner of that Speedy company because she was going hard for them!
I asked for a supervisor, she transferred me to someone else, and that person offered me a second opinion so I requested Airmax. Airmax came out and found a totally different source of the leak, plus they said the compressor needed to be replaced and I still needed Freon. Weeks went by and I didn't hear from anyone. I called AHS and found out that Airmax had declined to do the work and said that the other company needed to finish the work. I didn't want the other company to come back to my house so I called Airmax to beg them to come back and do the work. Airmax said that I had to ask AHS to call them and ask for a favor, and if the owner agreed to the favor then they would do the work. How ridiculous I thought!
Several more weeks went by and I heard nothing, so I called AHS and found out that Airmax agreed to do the work and had ordered the part, but I asked why they were paying $700 to fix a dead, 25 year old central air unit when we could just replace it? The answer was "Because it can be fixed". That made no sense to me, but what made even less sense was that when I asked for a cash out so that I could purchase a new unit, I was told that I had to pay for it first and then request the payout. Well I don't exactly have the money to buy a new central air unit because I spend all my savings making my monthly payment to AHS! I'm done. I cancelled my contract. I'd rather save the money for future expenses instead of dealing with this mess.
Hello, Eric. I regret to hear that you canceled as a result of the issues with your A/C unit. A Social Media team member will be reaching out to you directly.

On 8/06, I reached out to AHS to put in a claim for the water dispenser not working in my refrigerator. They dispatched a contractor, All Valley Appliances, whom came out three times to see if they could fix the issue. First they changed out the motherboard, which did not resolve the issue, so they then ordered a wire map to determine if there was an issue with the wires. They did find that the issue was with the wire and told me it could not be repaired. I called AHS and they said that the vendor said they were unsure of the issue and that they should get another opinion. So, on 9/07, Shapiro Appliance Repair was dispatched to our house. The service repair guy could not diagnose the issue and was supposed to order a wire map as well and get back to us to schedule a follow-up appointment once he received the map from KitchenAid.
After two calls to him, AHS said that he was not sure of the issue and said they should send out another person. On 10/25, US Standard Appliance Repair was scheduled to come and look at the issue. They said it was a wire issue that could not be repaired. I called AHS and they told me that the provider told them that they weren't sure of the issue and needed to send a KitchenAid specialist to look at it. The customer service rep I spoke with said that they were contacting a specialist and that this would be the last person to diagnose it and that it would be submitted for replacement if they could not fix it. On 11/02, they sent out Active Appliance Repair who was supposed to be a specialist. The provider could not fix the issue and said it wasn't repairable.
I chat with AHS and they tell me that the provider said they should get another opinion and send another specialist. I tell AHS that the company was supposed to be a specialist, but they say they are not and they just work on KitchenAid. They say they are going to set up an appointment with Sears because Sears specializes in KitchenAid and ensure me that Sears is the last person and also that they will refund my service fee (which they did) due to the inconvenience and how long everything is taking. I receive a confirmation from Sears on the appointment set for 11/28, which AHS said was their earliest appointment.
Today on 11/12, I receive a call from AHS that they need to schedule a new dispatch appointment. I send them a chat to let them know that Sears was already scheduled and I was told this would be the last appointment and guess what -- she tells me that they don't have the dispatch scheduled on their side. Also, she tells me that she apologizes, but the previous agent told me incorrect information (as every agent has told me about the previous agent) and they'll keep sending new appliance repair people until one says it cannot be fixed. So, if no one knows how to fix it or diagnose it correctly, then I'm going to keep dealing with this issue and new appointments. She did assign a new service company (this is #5 and three months of dealing with AHS and this issue), so I'm awaiting their call to schedule yet another appointment.
I cannot express how disappointed I am with the lack of knowledge from each customer service rep I have spoken with and the fact that every rep blames the prior rep for telling me incorrect information. I am also disappointed in the fact that no one has had a manager contact me to get this resolved (despite me requesting to speak with one). I feel like I'm being passed around and this company is just waiting until I no longer want to deal with it. It takes 20+ mins to get a hold of someone each time you call their customer service and the chat feature is only available at certain times, so they make it nearly impossible to get a hold of them. I would appreciate if I was contacted by a manager and if my refrigerator was swapped out already, so that I don't have to continue dealing with both AHS and the contractors. It's unfortunate that I've had such a bad experience as it seems like most have given them fairly positive reviews.

I live in Tuscaloosa, so it’s an hour away. I called AHS to inquire as to why I was given a company out of Birmingham when all the other times that I've done a request they’ve given me someone out of Tuscaloosa. The lady said it was because I did it online and National Platinum was the first one that popped up for whatever refrigerator issue it was. I asked if there was a way that I could get it transferred to somebody closer due to the fact that the company is so far away and may take a while before they can get a look at my issues, and then it’ll take longer for the service could be done.
The lady said that since I did it online, they couldn't cancel it since it was already put in. Eventually, the company called and said they would be sending somebody to look at my refrigerator. But a week went by before somebody finally showed up and checked the refrigerator out. Then they said they were gonna order a part, after which they said they couldn't fix it in time. All the while, I was talking to American Home Shield up to the point where I started to ask to speak with management and they would always take a message for management to call.
My gripe wasn't with the company they sent, but with AHS and the fact that I was never reached out to by management to talk about the situation, after speaking with two lovely ladies who answered the phone both times that I called. They took detailed notes and I still have yet to get a callback. In addition, I was without a refrigerator at a time when my wife was nursing. So I had to get a mini refrigerator and I had to go buy a deep freezer to be able to keep her milk. As for AHS, they offered money to go and rent a refrigerator, which I felt was an insult when the whole time I only asked to switch companies. Eventually, my refrigerator ended up getting fixed after a month of complaining about the company.
After that, I had another issue with my refrigerator which was totally unrelated. I did another online request, and it gave me National Platinum Services again. After giving that company horrible reviews with American Home Shield, both online and over the phone, I still got that company again. I called to get that switched and they said that since the company had to work on it the last time, they have the honor and so they gave it to them. I put my foot down to tell them no. They finally gave me another local company.
My stove went out last month and AHS gave me somebody locally. The company came out and said they needed to order a part. Two weeks went by and I ended up calling the company back because they always did well by me. They said that the day after they put in the report, American Home Shield contacted them and told them to go ahead and zero out the report because it was on them now. I had to call AHS myself to find out what was going on and that’s when they sent me over to the recovery department for them to tell me that they would have to get me a new unit. But I had to call them for that. Based on my recent experiences with AHS, they replaced three units for me, which have been great. But then at that time, it was frustrating and they wanted to be very difficult.
Good morning Antonio,
I understand your concerns regarding the contractor dispatched to service your refrigerator. Per the distance, I would be glad to speak with you and find another service provider.

I had certain issues with plumbing. There were a couple of leaking faucets and the water was dripping in the kitchen. I thought it was the faucet, but it was the disposal, so I made the claim with American Home Shield. They covered it, which was good, and the guy who came out was great. He came three times to manage all the actions that needed to be done. However, the frustrating part was that a steel part for one of the toilets that he needed to order took over three weeks to get, so we were out of commission with one of the bathrooms for a bit.
I had to explain that the situation had multiple issues, so I called it in, but sometimes, I go online and do it. Most of the time, I make a call specifically because I have some rental properties that I have rezoned and I have to make sure they call the tenants and I schedule appointments by myself. It is usually much easier when I talk to someone. Their customer service is great. They always feel like they can assist with the issue. MACE Plumbing, the contractor that was sent out, was also great.
I hardly have a good experience, but most of the time, the biggest issue is the response time that it takes for people to come out. They supposedly give us 48 hours to respond, but I found out that sometimes it takes longer and the best way to do is call them directly and try to schedule an appointment. However, if they contact us within 48 hours, they may not schedule an appointment for another three days. In dealing with a home warranty, the cost is typically very attractive on the repairs, but at the same time, we are dealing with longer response times.
Also, when the guys try to get parts, sometimes it takes too long, too. I have a rental property and they had a refrigerator repair, but it took around three weeks to get the part. I don't understand why it takes so long. I can go online and order a part and, typically, in two days, I can get it. If AHS really wants to enhance the customer service, they gotta look at the response time on handling the claims after the first visit, when they pre-order parts. That is the biggest thing that needs improvement.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service Chris. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

The first claim we did was because the power kept surging and the breaker would go off, cutting off all power to my master bedroom, bathroom and closet. I submitted the claim online and I had it scheduled but I didn’t hear back. It turned out that American Home Shield had an inaccurate phone number in the system. They were getting the number through the lawyer office when we got our house mortgaged. I've updated the phone number. But at the time, it took three days and I finally called them.
#1 R & R Electrical Allstar came out and they were nice. They tightened the wire connections for the breaker to the panel. But that was it and by that evening, it was tripping again. When we would have multiple lights on, or the TV and the light on in the room, or the fan and the TV on, it would trip the breaker to the master bedroom and bathroom. So we had to make a second call. We had no power over the weekend in the room until they came back. That time, they changed the breaker out and it’s been good ever since. I have had not an issue again. Since we’ve moved in the house, I've had a couple of things but it’s been good. The wait-time to get through sometimes is not as easy. But on my scheduling, it’s efficient. I've recommended American Home Shield and my parents have taken a policy out.

The washing machine went and then the water heater broke two weeks later. We filed our claim with AHS over the phone and it was processed quickly. Then they sent an email right behind it. The process was wonderful. The contractor for the washing machine didn’t show up for the first appointment though. We sat there for four hours and nobody ever showed up. We had to go to work so we called them back. They said they would be here the next day and they gave us a four-hour window again. The tech came in at the last minute before the time expired. He was not very helpful. He said the repair would take three to five days and that they would get back to us, but no one ever called. We called them and they said that the washer was done and it was up to AHS.
On the other side, the company AHS sent for the water heater was wonderful. They worked with us to get as quick an appointment as possible. The next day, they came, brought the water heater down, and prepped it for the next day. They came in the next day and installed the next one. They’ve also called to check on it. We’ve had the inspection done on the water heater and everything is perfect. We love AHS and the service that they've provided. We have recommended them to friends.

My air conditioner had a leak. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. I spoke with the reps several times over a period of about a week. It was good and they did a great job. The only complaint that I would have is that on their 1-800 number when you call them, I remember waiting one night for an hour and 25 minutes on hold. But when I finally talked to them, they had somebody call me the very next morning.
The contractor came out within a couple of hours after they called me. We identified what the problem was and then it got slow. I guess the contractor had to submit the claim back to American Home Shield. So I’m kind of at a loop at that point. I didn’t hear anything for 24 hours, so I called. My understanding was I was supposed to call the contractor. It was the first time I’ve ever used it, so I was a little confused.
When I called the contractor, they said that I didn’t really deal with them and that I would deal with AHS. So, I called AHS and they said I didn’t have to deal with them but with the contractor. The contractor submitted the claim and then they contacted me, and if I accept their bid, there's a $75 fee that I had to pay to American Home Shield. It got a little confusing for me because I don’t know if the contractor just hadn’t been used that much. They didn’t seem to be familiar with how the process work.
I’m very pleased with AHS for standing behind and honoring the contract and taking care of the air conditioning issue. But it took about seven days before I had the AC repaired and this was in the summertime. Once the contractor got it right to submit the bid with AHS, they thought AHS had to order the parts. So I waited a day or two on that. I called the contractor and they said they were waiting on AHS to order the parts. I called AHS and waited on the phone again. When I finally got ahold of them, they said they don’t order the parts and that the vendor orders them. So there was a delay because there was some confusion on the vendor’s part.
The vendor did a good job, but they didn’t seem like they were familiar with how everything worked and it seemed to drag things out a little bit. But it wasn’t all their fault. From the time they started, they had to wait for an approval from AHS, and from the time that all these were done, it was a 48-hour period before it was approved.
After the repair, the AC has been working great. I like AHS. They didn’t give me a hard time when I started making an insurance claim. They were very helpful and they never balked at paying for anything or taking care of the issue. I’m satisfied with the fact that with the amount of money I’ve been paying for a year plus since I’ve been in this, they did a good job. I would highly recommend AHS. It’s a great deal for what you pay, and they’re gonna take care of your home warranty needs.
Hello, Alan. We are glad to know that your A/C issue was resolved although it took about a week. The summer is our busiest season. Thank you for your feedback.

Our pool pump went bad. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim in the afternoon, and by that evening, I had two techs wanting to make an appointment for the following day. They came out the next day, which was a Friday, looked everything over, and told my wife that they would be back the following Tuesday. They then changed the pump up and they were here and gone, like they were never even here. They were also polite to my wife. It was a great experience all the way around.

I had the water heater done through AHS. I also had the dishwasher a couple times. Every experience was great. All the vendors AHS picked out were awesome. I sent in the claim online through my phone, and they called me within 24 hours. The vendor was real polite and very nice. He explained what he was gonna do and I paid 100 bucks. The contractor had to come back several times. But essentially, it had been repaired by GE prior to when I had the vendor from AHS. They explained that the appliance has a pretty rare problem. They fixed the control board the first time, which was the original issue with GE. And then there was something that was affecting the control board so he ended up repairing that the second time out, and now it’s been good ever since.

The clothes washer broke last year and it took three months to get it fixed. Luckily, I had two so I didn't panic. When the first provider came, he couldn't figure out what was going on. Then a second one came here and he said he knew what was going on but he was not authorized to order the part. He said he could have gotten the part the next day but AHS changed the policy and disallowed service providers to order the parts. He would have to submit it for AHS to order the part and that would take one week. This procedure prolonged the time we had to wait. AHS probably overlooked the term of the contract. When we signed up, they did not say we would have to wait this long. When we have something broken, we have to wait an unlimited amount of time. They are supposed to have a time limit.
With my nightmare with the clothes washer, I thought I'd better buy a new refrigerator, just in case. I recently found out that my refrigerator is not cooling. The one in the kitchen, which is older, also has an ice maker that is not working. I filed the claim online and I was told that the service provider would contact me. They did but they told me that in my area, I would have to wait 20 days for the refrigerator. That is too late. What kind of warranty is that? The contract didn’t say they could wait this much time. I discussed this issue with AHS one time and they mentioned reasonable time. But what is reasonable time? In this aspect, they are breaking the terms of the contract.
I had to call AHS back and ask them to find another contractor, and it took them 16 hours on the phone. Yesterday, the contractor came here and decided that the control board is broken. They're gonna replace that. The contractors sent by American Home Shield are good but there was one that said I couldn’t deal with them directly. They said that I would have to call AHS and AHS would have to order. It took me 16 hours to get a hold of American Home Shield on the phone and while I was waiting, the phone was hung up two times.
I wish AHS can work on their phone. When you call, they say that they are helping others and you have to wait in line. But they have me wait totally. When you call the IRS or the California Franchise Tax Board, they would ask you to leave your name and phone number and they would call back. That way, I wouldn’t have to spend eight hours on the phone. That’s terrible. I'm really debating with myself whether I should continue with AHS next year. With the long time I spent on claims, is it worth it?

The thermostat went out due to a venting problem with the dryer. I submitted a claim for that by going to the AHS website and navigating through it was quick. The tech came out three times but it wasn't his fault. American Home Shield got the tech out here on time and we didn't have to wait on anything. Follow-up visits took a bit longer, but they got back here. It took longer between the second and third visit because the tech was probably researching why it kept burning the thermostat. He got a feedback that it was probably the venting on the dryer. So, I changed the venting and he replaced the thermostat. The problem was resolved and we're satisfied. We were only charged the service call for the first one and everything was great.

It took two visits, but I didn’t care, it turned out to be a pretty expensive service, so I was happy.

We had an air conditioning issue and a heating issue so it needed to be replaced, and American Home Shield wouldn’t replace it. But what they did was gave me a credit for a new one for the cost of actually fixing that one because they could have fixed but it had some age on it. I was happy with that. I did the initial request online and the actual claim was submitted by the technician. I was very pleased with him. He was responsive. I felt like the technician really knew what he was doing. He was very nice about helping me out with the claim. He did a good job when they came back and replaced it
But the biggest hassle with American Home Shield is that they allow 24 hours for the contractor to contact you. So that just kind of makes emergencies not really doable. It wasn’t an emergency in this case because the weather wasn’t bad at the time, but it could be. I can imagine plumbing issues so I don’t like that about American Home Shield. But I would definitely recommend AHS for new homeowners.
Hello, Rebecca. Thank you for letting us know that your A/C service request was handled efficiently. Don't waste your money on American Home Shield. Like any home warranty company, they do whatever they can to try to avoid fixing anything. We’re in a new home and my husband noticed the outside spigot was dripping. He went to tighten it up but the whole pipe broke. So he shut the water off to the whole house and had someone come out the next day. But the contractor couldn’t access the full pipe. The kitchen cabinets had to be taken out and they told us that we had to hire a carpenter to do that. So my husband handled it himself instead.
We've had all kinds of things that needed to be repaired. But why would we even bother with American Home Shield when they're ultimately gonna find a way not to repair. We have to pay the copay to have contractors come out to tell us they’re not gonna do it. So we would end up spending more money. So we just take care of everything ourselves.

I've had a great experience with American Home Home Shield. I call them for my claims and it's easy. When I lost the keys to my house, technicians came and rekeyed it. American Home Shield only covers five locks and I have eight. It cost me 400 bucks, but AHS lived up to their part of the bargain. I've been with AHS for over a year. I just bought a new house and the hot water heater there went out. I called the claim in and three days later, I had a new one installed. That was just awesome. I had to pay 60 bucks for a modification but I understood that.
I pay AHS good money and they do what they say they would do as opposed to Select Home Warranty which does nothing. Select Home Warranty gives me numbers of contractors that don't answer the phone or numbers that don't exist. I recommended AHS because all the other companies take your hot water heater and they say, "It's eight years old. We'll depreciate it," and then get a check for a 100 bucks. I've been very happy with AHS. In fact, I have five properties. I am going to cancel all my Select Home Warranties and I'm gonna go with American Home Shield on my other four houses. They're a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

He was very professional, and he seemed to be from a reputable company. He was very kind and he took it above and beyond about explaining to me some of the reasons that these things could happen. And on top of it, we ended purchasing from them a digital thermostat. It was a great experience. They didn't make me feel bad about anything. We're very happy we got the policy. When the water pressure was low and I had one faucet that didn’t work at all, I called American Home Shield and they contacted a local plumber, Budget plumbing. Then Budget called and told me when they’d be here. They were very timely and they sent a plumber who was an expert. He was excellent and courteous, and he did a really good job. I was pleased with his work and everything has been working fine since the repair.
In September, however, when I had some gas leak, it was a different plumber that was sent. The last time I had was excellent, but the first one, I kept telling him, “You need to call and say what you’re doing, or what you’re assessing.” But he was obstinate and I didn’t know what I could do about that. I just kept repeating myself and I was so mad. Nevertheless, everything worked out and he got paid. That situation with the first plumber really wasn’t American Home Shield’s fault. It was just bad communication. Also, it was a weekend and it was a holiday. Still, having the warranty with American Home Shield is very worth it. However, we hope they would give shorter time spans of when the contractors are coming so we don't have to stay late at home. We also hope we could choose the company that we used before. We had air condition people that service our air conditioning yearly and we would like to choose them when something goes wrong. I had trouble a couple of times when filing a claim a while back. But it seems to have taken care of itself. There was one contractor that I didn't particular care for. But other than that things has been okay so give them a try.

If people report on a Viking appliance, AHS needs to make sure that they send folks who are specialized in it, so they don’t waste any trip. AHS had to send a second group that was specialized in Viking to do it. When they sent the right people though, the repair was done very quickly. The tech was a very positive and helpful guy. American Home Shield sent out Belgrade Plumbing for our most recent claim, which turned out to be a long process. Our upstairs toilet had to be plunged at least a couple of times every day. Then down in our kitchen, the kitchen sink would back up and we’d have to run the garbage disposal a couple of times a day as well. The tech said that the flapper valve in the tank, in the toilet, wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do. So, he replaced the whole tank, but it did absolutely nothing. And then he said he cleaned out the line near the kitchen sink and that should help. But that did nothing too.
He was supposed to come back but we didn’t hear anything for a couple of weeks. I kept calling and I texted, then after about three weeks, we set up a date and time. He was gonna come out but I had to cancel. I asked him if we could do it later in the day, because he had done that before on us and it wasn’t a big deal. He agreed and said he would be here at a certain time, but I haven’t heard from him since.
We called AHS back and they were disgusted with Belgrade Plumbing. AHS tried getting a hold of them but never got an answer. So, AHS sent out another company right away. The contractor ran a snake all the way down and they thought they cleaned something out. There was also a leak off the new tank that Belgrade Plumbing put in, so the new guy fixed that. And then he found that the garbage disposal was absolutely gone. It would have rusted away. So, everything was hanging in the garbage disposal and not let water go by. He changed out the garbage disposal and now it’s good. It all got worked up beautifully.

Their contractor contacted me right away to schedule an appointment to come out and when they did, they looked at the refrigerator and told me that they would have to order parts. It took a long time to get the parts. Apparently, there's a common issue with Samsung refrigerators that the parts were on backorder through Samsung. Our heater was not working downstairs so I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. Their site as very user-friendly and completely seamless. After using it once, I won't ever call again because doing it online is more efficient, easy and accessible. I don’t have to wait until someone answers, listen to different menu options and hold on. I can do it anytime of the night. And as soon as I finish typing, I would get a response saying that whoever has been assigned would be contacting me within 24 hours. Everything about it is perfect.
As of late, the contractors AHS sent out were extraordinary, professional, timely, responsive, seamless and communicative even though recently, we had different issues. The latest company gave us a 2:00 to 5:00 time period. I asked if somebody could call me before they head out because I had to pick my daughter up from school in that time period but our heat was out so we needed to get that fixed as soon as possible. Then, she called back and said that they had an opening from 12:00 to 3:00 and asked if that would work better. I’m like “Perfect.” I didn’t have to ask. They did that on their own. So that was tremendous customer service. The guy who came fixed our issue in one day and explained to us what the problem was. Apparently, there was something wrong with the light switch and he had the part available. He had actually been to our house before so he remembered where things were. He was perfectly nice, friendly and responsive.
But in the past, we’ve had a group who, if we ever see again, we would not use American Home Shield and we would just have to pay for it elsewhere because they were horrible as far as their communication and customer service went. When I called the office, no one ever answered the phone over multiple days. It took forever for them to call me back. And when I looked them up online, the lack of ability to get in contact with someone was a consistent complaint. The inability and non-responsiveness were completely unacceptable. We also had an issue with our garbage disposal that was leaking. It was replaced a couple of weeks ago but it’s leaking again so I’ve got to schedule a convenient time when I’m gonna be at home for them to come and look at that again.

American Home Shield repaired my stand-alone ice maker last week. But they had trouble finding the part and the repair took a long time. It took about a month before they finally found one and got it to the appliance company that installed it. My experience working with the contractor was very good and the ice maker has been working since then. It makes ice. But I don't have a contract with American Home Shield anymore. I had one for my property in Houston and one property out in Bellville. But I didn’t renew the contracts for either property. I had been a customer for about 20 years but all of a sudden, they started doubling the cost for me. I guess it was because I had a claim and I think that’s unrealistic.
Plus in the process of getting a repair, it takes the contractor a tremendous amount of time on hold. Then the contractors would complain that they don’t really wanna work with American Home Shield because they can’t spend their day on hold trying to get approvals. It was the same for me when I would make a claim. I would spend up to three hours at times, on hold and waiting for a representative.

I had the same tech come out for my air conditioning and heating claims. He fixed the air conditioner the first time that he came out and then he worked on the heater the second time. He had to order a part for the heater and it has been working well since the repair. He was topnotch and I'd recommend him to anybody. My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the hot water heater and the plumber never called me back. I've tried calling and leaving messages, but the plumbing company wouldn't call me back. The plumber called me about 30 minutes before he was gonna show up and they fixed it. But I wasn't as happy with that guy.

Called to request repair service for our non working central AC system that just happened this Saturday morning. Was informed that although AHS takes requests for service 24/7, there is no guarantee I will receive service this whole weekend. I informed the phone screener that we were having a large party here at our home and I need the AC to be working. We live in FL! She gave me the number of World Class AC Inc, who the service request was sent to. I phoned them, got a recording, left my information, so far have not received a callback. At this point, AHS has been a total waste of time and money. I need this fixed now! I have called our AC company, Energy Air, that we have a maintenance agreement with since we moved in, 2 months ago. I got a recording, left my information and my call was returned within 10 minutes. The technician will be here in an hour with a service call fee of only $15 more than AHS. This is what I call service!

Greenway Home Services contacted me the next day to set up the appointment and it was easy. The service person was wonderful. He was really professional, friendly and nice. My only complaint is the contractors give a four-hour appointment window which, for someone who is very busy and has children and work, is very difficult to accommodate.

I filed a claim over a month ago for a blower issue on my heating/air. I had to call the Heating and Air Guys, they didn't call me. The problem started on a Saturday and they came out 4 days later. It was sort of limping along at this point, but I explained to the tech that the AC side was not blowing very cold but the heat side was not blowing heat at all. I explained to him that I didn't want there to be a problem when it got into the winter months. His diagnosis was a pinhole in the line and I needed freon. AHS only pays $10 per pound for this and I had to pay the difference to them (contractor). OK great. He told me if it happened again within 60 days, I can just call them directly and I didn't have to go back through AHS. So a couple weeks later...same thing happened. Only they won't answer the phone or call me back.
I contacted AHS and days later the contractor comes back. I told them it was doing the same thing only now it's cold out so it's the heat that's not blowing. He acted like we'd never had this same discussion recently and tells me I may have to pay another $100 service fee. Why? You haven't fixed anything yet. He tried to say I called them originally for an AC charge. I did??? He tests some things and determines what part he needs and tells me they will order it on Monday. Fast forward 9 days later and a few un-returned messages later...I get a text @ 2:30 saying they'll be at my house between 5 and 7. Short notice, but great. He puts the part in and it doesn't work and he can't figure any of it out. He calls the owner who says he'll be back tomorrow @ 3:30. I haven't seen him yet and he didn't call to say he wasn't coming. He won't answer my calls or call me back.
All I keep hearing from AHS reps is that they are sorry and they understand it's going to be cold out but I have to wait another 24 hours for the contractor to call me. Why??? I expected them yesterday and they didn't show or call. And they claim they can't find another contractor to come out. I have the parts, I just need them put in. AHS makes sure they collect their service fee and monthly payment, but they don't stand with you when you're being taken advantage of by their contractors. These cut-rate contractors are representatives of AHS and you would think they would be better vetted. I'm not sure I'll be a customer of AHS much longer. Making this right will determine.

It was an evening when I made the online contact, and the contractor got ahold of me the very next day and set up an appointment. They also called before they were heading this way just to make sure I was here so it was good to me. I'd rather have more than enough contact than not enough contact when I needed something done. They came out and were here when they said they would, and took care of the problem. I made the payment to American Home Shield and they took it out of my account. The central air fired right up and worked for those three weeks that I needed to use it.
I have AHS for a year and when my year is up, I hope they will give me a heads up about it a month ahead of time so I'm not caught off guard in making a quick decision when they will offer for me to extend it for another year. I would definitely recommend AHS. I was a little skeptical at first when I was buying the home. They told me personally that they would come back or I could contact them if I had a problem which I did but they did not respond. I had a plumbing issue. I submitted a claim online with AHS and I did that because on the phone, I would end up waiting very long to speak to somebody. Their process is more geared to be done online and in theory, you don’t need to speak to somebody because they have to contact a contractor to come out anyway. Their website is very user-friendly and even if you don’t remember your sign in details, you just have to type in your address and some other information that you should know.
The tech who came out for my claim was very good. He got it resolved on his first visit and didn’t have to come back. He was also very polite, very skilled, and when he came in, he saw what the problem was. I thought that it was worse than it was but he took care of it. We'll have to wait and see though. I got a whole year if something goes wrong because it was a leak dripping from a bathtub off the top into the ceiling in my garage. I wanna cut away the sheetrock myself and take a look up in there to see.
I have American Home Shield on this particular home for over eight years now and they have saved me countless money. In the first year, I didn’t have to pay for it because the people I bought the house from had it for the first year. At the time, I had to replace my AC compressor and when I asked the tech how much that would have been if I didn’t have American Home Shield, he said that would been an $1,800 repair. So, I was quite happy to have the warranty. Then I had to replace my pool pump and that would have been $300 to change. But all that it cost me was the service charge. So, it's a fairly cheap insurance for a house that’s over 20 years old.

I got a dryer and a dishwasher repair done through AHS. They were very attentive and knowledgeable when I submitted the claims. One of my qualms was the first time, the contractor came out, he didn’t fix the dryer. They said it was a ventilation problem. So the next time, he came out about the dishwasher, I just went ahead and had him look at the dryer again, told him that there wasn’t anything wrong with the vent, and they were able to fix it. But it was past 60 days, so I had to pay the service fee. When the technician came, he looked at everything and said he had to order parts. He probably wasn’t there 20 minutes and he has done a good job.
However, they set me with an appointment and the repair service people have 48 hours to get in contact with me, but I’ve had a lot of cases where it took longer than that for those guys to come out to the house. I’ve been put on hold for a week or two, before they can even do the first visit. But that's the only downside that I see to it. They don’t really work around your schedule. They tell you when they can come and they give like a four hour window and tell you that you have to be there in such hours, which makes it hard also. I hope the service people could respond quicker. Once I get the email from American Home Shield, I go ahead and call them on the first day to set an appointment. Most of the time when I call, they say they didn’t know that. They had to look it up. The longer it takes them to realize they got a claim, the longer it takes for them to call me and do the service.
My air conditioner broke down on the summertime. They were booked, so I ain’t have air for three weeks. When they came out they said I needed a new unit. So they had to call American Home Shield to get authorization to replace it. Once they got authorization, AHS had to send them the unit and then they had to put the unit up. I'm also staying with them because I have all the original parts in my house that I bought. Like with the hot water heater and the dishwasher, all of the stuff is still original and nothing will die. I've also had no problem with any of the contractors with American Home Shield except I don't understand the four-hour window. But that goes with any of these companies that are coming out to your house. When they say they would be there between 8:00 and 12:00, it would be nice if they would let us know if you're number three on the list or that they would definitely not be there at 8:00.
With my last three claims, the contractors had all gotten there within 15 minutes of the final hour. I would sit there, not going anywhere, not running to the store or not running an errand, when they could have just sent a text message saying I'm number five and that they're probably not gonna get to me until 10:00 to 12:00. They know what number you are on the list. They know that if you need to run out and take a kid to school at 8:00 in the morning, it's okay. That's the only thing. That goes for my son too. He also has a home warranty and when they're at work, they ask if I can go over because the technicians are coming.
I had Central Electric come out about my bathroom fan once and they told me I was number two on the list, which was very nice. But then the guy came out and said he would submit the claim to American Home Shield. The fan was making a horrific noise where the valve bearing is lying around and I couldn't even use the fan. American Home Shield doesn't fix noise though. They only fix something if it completely died. So I spent $100 for nothing. That was a bummer. I have to own it too though. I didn't read my contract and look into the details. But then, I don't want to read my contract all the time either.
I have a refrigerator claim right now. It's with a different contractor and it's taking eight days for the contractor to come out. That's only because that particular contractor is still busy with things. Otherwise, American Home Shield has gotten on everything I've reported within half an hour. I've also gotten a phone call back from somebody and usually, within 24 hours, everything's fixed. I had one claim for my toilet because the water kept running in the tank. Something just needed replacing and Durango had it done in less than five minutes.
It's so easy to make a claim with American Home Shield. I just bring up an old email with them and click on their website. I don't even have to look anything up. Right at the top, it says "Require Service" and that's it. It takes less than 30 seconds. You just do it through the thing and then next thing you know, somebody's calling you from the company to set up a repair. The people that they work with have been so good too. Then American Home Shield immediately follows up to make sure everything went okay. Those are my best things. American Home Shield is very serious about good care.
In fact, I had a garage door problem at one point in time and the people came out and fixed it. But then, it wasn't working again. So I called American Home Shield again. When the guy came out, he gave me his card and said that the only reason the garage door was not working was because I had bumped it. It wasn't the work that they had done. So he told me to always give them a call first. If I just bumped something, they would come out and reset it, and they wouldn't charge me anything. So the company is really nice. The people there have been really nice and professional as well. That was going above and beyond too. It made the contractor look bad if I had to make another call. Also, I just didn't know what I was doing but they were able to explain what was happening and show me how to remedy it. That was an education process and that was good.

I filed a claim with my dryer and my washer. One went out first and then about a week later, the other one went out. I think one of those things was caused by the other. That was like a weird coincidence. I get online to submit a request and within a couple of days, they send me a text. And then they’ll handle it. If they have to order parts, they order parts. Then they’ll come back to fix once the parts arrive.
I had three claims. Two of them were great and one wasn’t. The one that fixed my washer, I wasn’t really happy with. So I asked American Home Shield that I wish not to use the company, and they said that would be fine. The one contractor that they sent out said I had to remove the washer from the slot. I had to bring it out for them. I had to have everything around clear for like two feet, so they can work around it. The other repairman who came for my dryer said that my washer didn’t need to be moved, just like they wanted it. We were without a dryer for a couple of days, but the process was pretty fast. Everything else has been really good.
Hi, Miguel. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. We're pleased to hear that when you were unsatisfied with a contractor, we assured you that you would not have to use them in the future.

My AC had stopped working. I called American Home Shield then they got in touch with a company in my area, Integrity Air Conditioning and Heating. The gentleman from the company came out and he was very professional. I didn’t have a manual for my AC so he took the liberty to download the manual to his phone, to find out additional issues that could have occurred. He took a picture of it and taught me how to do it. He was very personable and knowledgeable. He fixed the problem and told me what I was gonna be charged. He was here for 15 minutes and everything is working fine since then. Being a homeowner, anytime, anything can happen and we don’t always have money on hand so having a service is good because they come in and do what they have to do. And I didn’t have to buy a new AC system, so that was great.

My sister told me about American Home Shield and it was the one she recommended. While my experience was great, I had a problem with the last service tech who was sent. I had submitted a claim for a washing machine whose bearings went out. The tech called several times, saying he was late but he lied because he told me that they did not open until 9:00 when my appointment was for 9 o’clock. He then said that he was busy with another job. So we scheduled for the following week, and he told me he would be here at 8 o’clock. But, 8 o’clock came and went, and he still was a no show. So I called Kelbachs Appliance to find out where he was and why he was late again. He got all lippy with me.
In addition, I waited for three weeks for him to call me, and he did not tell me that he needed to order the parts. Given my experience, I would not recommend Kelbachs Appliance to anyone. I don't want their guy ever in my house again for any type of work. He was very rude and when he came walking into the door, he had an attitude. Other than that, my first call to AHS was for my furnace. Since I was new to the company, I ended up calling a tech that I knew and thought I could get reimbursed for his services. But I called later and found out that they don't. Still, I’m very satisfied with AHS’ service. They are great as far as being able to get someone right away.
