I live in Honolulu, Hawaii where the average temperature is mid to high 80s. Unfortunately, my central AC started raining down on my floor. The local service provider came out in a timely manner to inspect my AC. It turns out that a part was cracked and needed to be replaced. 10 days later, and no one contacting me, the local AC repair company could not locate the part here on island. They asked AHS to supply the part. Over a week later a part was ordered, supposedly. The part was supposed to arrive in Honolulu yesterday after waiting 10 days for it. Lo and behold it did not arrive. I had spoked to an authorization supervisor, Ms. **, previously. She would or could not provide me with a tracking number at that time. She advised me that the AC repair company received that number, which they did not. I was told that I would receive my service charge back for the inconvenience and that was now almost 2 weeks ago, no refund yet.
I have called Ms. ** and left a voicemail a week ago and no response. I am completely disgusted with the lack of "customer service" I have received. Not once has someone from this company reached out to me unless I instigated it. I have spent countless hours waiting on the phone just to speak to someone who can't or won't help me. I will not recommend this company based on the way I have been treated. It's been a month now with no AC and living in a hot climate it can be unbearable. My condo gets up to 89 degrees inside. And no one seems to care at AHS.
Hello, L Hann. We regret to hear that you are experiencing a delay in completion due to a part that has not yet been delivered. A Social Media team member will contact you to assist you with a resolution.

Our AC wasn’t running and it was hot in the house. I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. There was a little mix-up. It was like on a Friday and the email said I had to call them and I thought they were gonna call me. But other than that, it went okay. Our AC is working now.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Vanicha. Even with the mix-up, we are happy to hear that your issue was ultimately resolved. We are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week if you need assistance. Have an amazing week.

My air conditioner has a hole in the u-coil and is still not resolved. North Carolina says that the outside unit has to match and the u-coil has to match something about pressure. They're not gonna replace the outside unit, although they're all the same age of about 18 years old. I have to replace that and have everything resolved before it gets hot again. American Home Shield gave me a good price of $1,800. They sent their vendor American Air Conditioner and the owner's wife said it's $2,800. That created a gap and when I talked to American Home Shield several weeks later, they still said it was $1,800. When I finally get the $1,800 and we get it all installed, I'm wondering if they're gonna try to hijack me for another $1,000.
Other than that, I have called about the washing machine and that process was easy. American Home Shield sent a contractor from Whirlpool. He also told us he had to order a part and that he'd be back. He came back a couple of weeks later and he fixed it so we could use it. The washing machine is totally repaired now and working excellently. I'm very satisfied.

I find it very difficult to work with American Home Shield sometimes. Their callback times are bad and sometimes their customer service people are obnoxious. But I’ve called their main office a few times, and they’re always nice. Some of the contractors they've sent out have been great too. One fixed my AC which was great. But the contractors they've sent for my refrigerator came out three times but couldn't fix it. So, I just bought a new one. They've also sent three different plumbers for a claim. One of them didn’t speak English and I couldn’t understand a word he said. He also broke the valve in my basement. But we just called our own outside plumber to fix it.

Our freezer and fridge quit cooling and it took three guys to come. It gets over 100 degrees here in Bakersfield and getting an air conditioner fixed is a nightmare. We can’t make it a month without air. The first guy came and the unit initially needed a part, so he came back with the part and as he was putting the part in, there was something else broken and he said he couldn’t fix that. The second man came and we explained to him that the other guy said it was a Freon issue and the second man said the part will be put back on. We told him that’d already been put on and off, but he put it on, took it back off and left. The third guy came and he fixed it.
I’ve been with home warranties since they started and I’ve had 50 visits over the years including rentals. Some of these guys show up just to collect that initial fee and that's what the second guy struck me as. He wasn’t interested in doing the repair or he came out on a problem that he shouldn’t be out on, but the first and third guys were very professional and great. We’ve had the first guy before and he was excellent. I was really disgruntled about paying for my own air, but I don't think I’d be able to get the unit fixed. It’s the nature of the business and I can’t blame American Home Shield. Companies will do anything not to replace it and that’s the way it’s gonna be. All in all, I was satisfied.

When my back door light switch would not go off, I called the claim in to American Home Shield. The representative I spoke with was great and very helpful. Then a technician from Electro-Tech South Texas came out. He was great too. In fact, he came so quickly that it made my head spin. He happened to be close by. He stopped by and got it fixed. Everything has been great since.
Hello, Wanda. Sounds like your service went like a dream! Thank you for the positive feedback. AHS appreciates your patronage.

Our air conditioner wasn’t cooling and American Home Shield sent a contractor but the contractor couldn’t do it. So then, a second contractor came out and said it would have taken a crane to get it off of the building. He also said that it would actually be more economical to replace the ac rather than getting a crane. It was no good using a crane so I ended up getting a new ac. AHS gave me $325 on something and I ended paying the rest. Other than that, the $75 charge every time I call in is not spelled out in the contract. It talks about a fee but it isn’t very clear.

I love American Home Shield. We have been paying for 19 years and we've had a water heater put in for $75, as well as a new condenser, air compressor, and air conditioning. When I submit a claim, I do it over the phone and their customer service agents are wonderful. Also, while I've had a couple of different plumbers out a couple of times, they were all professionals. AHS sends out the right people. Recently, I had a new well pump installed and its electrical failed. A guy came and fixed it. The response time from the time that I called in a claim until I've heard from a contractor is incredible, and it only takes half an hour sometimes. I couldn't be happier with American Home Shield.

I always call in if I have to do a claim and it’s a hit and miss with the reps from American Home Shield. They were nice people but half the time, they gave wrong information. So, it was frustrating. Also, you can never speak to a supervisor so, they’ve got lots of customer service issues on over the phone experience. They also have very bad vendors that come out, their customer service is so-so and they have a horrible wait time but they have a very cheap premium.
When one of the motors of the AC was not turning on, AHS sent a contractor who was an older gentleman. He was the owner of the company. He diagnosed the problem and when he ordered the part, we needed to wait for it to arrive which took a while. That was fine but the person who came to install it was his nephew who didn’t seem to know how to get it in. It took him an hour and he kept on shutting it because it rides on a track and he couldn’t find the track. So, he kept on by brute force and pushed it in. It tore holes on the insulation and I didn’t feel very comfortable with the process.
I called the owner who got a little annoyed because he wanted his nephew to take care of it. I tried to give his nephew the benefit of the doubt and so, he got it in. I asked him what he was gonna do about the hole and he said it was not that big. I told him that the insulation was there for a reason, so it should be patched. He said he would duct tape it. I called his uncle again and his uncle ended up having his nephew leave. Then I called American Home Shield and tried to get another vendor to come out, and they said there was not any possible way to do that since it has been damaged. The original vendor had to fix it. Eventually, I called the vendor back and the owner came out again and not his nephew, so that was good. He installed it, fixed the holes and assured me that everything was fine. So, I felt a little more comfortable and then he left.
I keep AHS for my AC. In case something goes wrong, I don’t wanna pay for it out-of-pocket. Most of the vendors that they send out are very bad, which is very frustrating because then you have to deal with it. When my washing machine broke down, they could not fix it and they kept on sending out new technicians but they could never diagnose it. I finally got a Sears tech and he knew what he was doing and he fixed it, but they just send out kind of subpar people that are so-so on their level of training, professionalism or thoroughness. So, you get stuck with those not so hot repair people. However, AHS is zealous about keeping you happy. They refunded my copay so, I appreciate that about them.

When I call American Home Shield to file a claim, they send me an email advising me who got assigned to the contract. If I don't hear from the contractor shortly thereafter, I call them to try and schedule an appointment. One time, Blanton Appliance came out for the ignition of my dryer that wouldn't heat. The tech said the problem had to do with the knob and he fixed it. It was fine thereafter but then recently, it stopped heating again and so I scheduled for them to come out once again. AHS' warranty has met the needs that I have. I recommend it to others.

I had a garbage disposal that was leaking. I called American Home Shield and I had a very good interaction with their reps. They were very helpful. They took my information and said that I would get a call within a certain timeframe. Then I got a response right away by text from the plumber. He came out and he was very professional. There was an issue with my AC and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield. Their online system was very effective and the claim was taken care of without any much to and fro. The contractor, Stockdale, came in fast and their dispatcher was very good. They told us what we needed to do and when the next appointment for the repair would be. They were here within a specified time, and the technicians were very good at communicating with us too.
We had about four calls within the last two months regarding the AC though. The first time, they told us it really was out and that was replaced but then within a couple of days, it was not working. So, they said that the AC motor had to be changed. We did that and it was taken care of. We have two AC systems for the upstairs and downstairs and the next time, the motor on the other one had also failed, so they changed that too. But in all those cases, both AHS and Stockdale were very responsive and the AC was repaired.
Good afternoon Tariku,

My pool heater would not work, so I submitted a claim online. The next day, I was reached out. Then, A1 came out to look at it and said that it was not repairable. Hence, they replaced it, and the replacement has been great. The process took 48 hours. The contractor did a very good job. He let me know what was going on every step of the way, so I was very pleased. American Home Shield has been very good. I filed the claim early in the process after getting that, and sometimes I wonder what that does to premiums, but, I guess, time will tell.

I had a bunch of drains backed up and they were clogged. As I was new to submitting claims, I called American Home Shield to ask what to do about somebody coming in for the plumbing. They gave me a contractor's information and Aaron Rooter came out the day after. It was quick. The plumber asked me what the issue was, checked everything out, and fixed it. Having the drains fixed improved the day-to-day operations in our home. I was charged automatically for that and I have not had any problems with AHS so far. It was a good experience.

The American Home Shield rep I talked to when I submitted a claim for the exhaust fans was very helpful. He set up the appointment and it was quick and easy. Then, the service technician who came out was very knowledgeable, professional, and nice. He came and looked at the exhaust fans, figured that they needed replacing, and bought or got two. He came back and did the reinstall. And the whole thing took less than four hours. The exhaust fans seem to be working just fine since the replacement. If anyone asks about AHS, I would tell them AHS is responsive and good value.

There was a piece broken in our dishwasher one time and the sink was leaking. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and they sent out an excellent contractor. However, with AHS it's not $100 for just them to come out. It's only $100 for a certain period. I wish there wasn't a fee for different kinds of services. For instance, if I'm calling for plumbing and at the same time I have an appliance issue, those are two different services and I have to pay $100 for each. Still, I'm satisfied with AHS.

The light of the refrigerator was melting the casing on the top, so we had to completely unplug the light. And then I started having problems with the freezer, so I tried to get my claim submitted with American Home Shield for it. But they said that I got a preexisting condition in this light bulb. I told them to not fix my light bulb, but fix my freezer. But they said no, so I emailed the CEO of the corporation. They forwarded that to the executive customer complaint department and they had it taken care of.
It ended up being okay, but it did cost me quite a bit of time. It would be nice if their regular customer representatives were as helpful as the executive customer department. The contractor that AHS sent out repaired the fan, but two weeks later, it stopped working. They told me they were going to order the part, but I didn't hear from them for two weeks. So, I contacted AHS again and they said they decided to replace the unit and had already authorized me for that.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioner and it took a little while. The parts weren't available at the time and it was the busiest season or the busiest time of the summer. It was up in the 90s. Also, we had Tommy Garner Air Conditioning and Heating come out and charge the refrigerant. We went through the same thing again. It was a leak in the coil unit, so a second call came in for it. Then, they came out and they made a determination it was beyond economical repair. They dropped a new condensing unit that upgraded it to the R404 and made it EPA-compliant. Then, they put a new coil in that would work with the outside unit.
Great Jason! I'm happy to hear that we have resolved your a/c issue. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have an amazing week.

We had three different refrigerators having problems. One of them was leaking into the fruit bins at the bottom. They were filling up with water every few days. Then, another refrigerator had the ice and water on the front of the fridge, and that fridge has not been working for a while. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, I did it over the phone partly because we had multiple appliances and I was hoping to get it under one claim, which we did. Their reps were helpful. They let us know everything was covered and they connected us with a serviceman.
The serviceman came to diagnose the fridge that was leaking water in the bottom. He told me that there's a clog somewhere in the system and we needed to defrost it for 24 hours. When he came back, he double checked it and blew air to it so that the clog would be removed. It started working better since even though it still has some dust underneath that they needed to vacuum out to get it working properly. But it doesn't leak anymore. Then on the other fridge, the on and off switch was broken. The serviceman came back and helped put in a new switch but it still wasn’t working. So he had to get another part for the water to come correctly. In closing, American Home Shield has always been a good deal for us. We even use them at another house. While the service charge is a little higher than it used to be, it is still fine.

We had a leak and American Home Shield sent a contractor who fixed it. We had another claim where we needed our microwave fixed. But there were so many bad reviews on the contractor that I cancelled. It said that the contractor doesn't fix what they said they were gonna fix. With such a reputable company as AHS maybe they want to think about getting a better contractor as far as the appliances go. We asked for a different contractor but nobody ever came.
Other than that we do our claims online and I like it. Their website is user-friendly. I’m pretty happy with the service. It’s invaluable. It’s a gift from God. They’re a good company. What I also like about AHS is I don’t have to pay them right then. I can pay it after the repair is completed, and I really like that. AHS understands the struggle. Whatever gets broken, if it’s in the realm of what they can do, I pay $125. What’s that versus spending thousands and thousands of dollars.

American Home Shield sent Greenway Home Services for an AC issue and they stopped 5 times. They didn't figure out the problem until I found out what it was. I told them about it so they changed the duct under the house. After the technician changed it, I smelled something was not right the next day, so I called Greenway back again. The technician went under the house and found that the duct was loose. He didn't fix it the right way. He just put duct tape around it and he left. I told him he had to put duct seal and zip tight then put the duct tape. He told me he knew what he was doing. After he left, the duct became loose again. I called Greenway, they stopped by, and the technician put duct tape again. He said nothing was gonna happen to it.
The thing was the duct had to be relaxed. The duct under the house was so stretched. When it’s stretched, it’s gonna get off again. When I asked why the technician didn't put on duct seal and zip tight, the technician said that was gonna cost me more money. But he said not to worry and that it was gonna work right. The technician told me he has 30 years of experience. I told him that if he did the work the right way in the beginning, I didn't have to call 5 times for the same reason. His face turned so ugly because he didn't like what I said.
My brother and I both have American Home Shield. I got two other friends who have them too. I gave them the number to call AHS and to get the service from them. I’ve been with American Home Shield since I buy the house in 2003. For my AC claim, I used to call the Greenway then they transferred me to AHS. They answered right away. But the last time I called for the same issue, I stayed on the line for 45 minutes. I told AHS exactly what happened. I even recalled everything when the Greenway guys stopped by in my house. I was recording all the conversation. Other than that, AHS has been good.
I only had issues with Greenway. They keep pushing me and the guy said that I needed to change the AC unit. But there was nothing wrong with it. He kept calling for this and that. I told him I didn't wanna change the unit. Age is only a number. I take care of the AC every year and clean it to keep it running perfectly. If something happens in the future, I don’t want American Home Shield to send me Greenway Home Services again. I don’t wanna deal with them even if they wanna do something for me for free.

I have a GE refrigerator and its compressor went out. I called to file a claim to AHS and the person whom I spoke to was excellent. However, I had a lot of problems with the technicians who came out thereafter. The first guy who came was talking about how expected tips as soon as he walked in. I asked if he didn't get paid for doing the work and he explained that he took a pay cut. He said he was only getting $80 for the job but then he should get $150. He also said that the problem was the compressor and that it would be two or three weeks before he got the part. He took off thereafter and I called AHS to say that I didn't want that guy back in my house. That technician then cancelled everything.
So, I had to call AHS again to get someone else to come out and actually do the work. It took a couple of weeks to get the part and the guy who came out the second time around was great. I refer AHS to everybody I know. We live in a 55-plus mobile home park and almost everybody there has American Home Shield. Everybody talks well about this company.

I've had good service from American Home Shield but there have been times when I've been disappointed. I don't believe they're staffed sufficiently enough to take phone calls. I have complained about it to my account representative numerous times. It is much easier and much more efficient to deal with things electronically, which is what everybody wants you to do now anyway. But you get horrible service when you try to call them with a claim.
I had an electrical claim for the outside receptacle with American Home Shield most recently. I submitted it online which was extremely easy as opposed to doing it on the phone which I had given up on doing. Then, they got in touch with me and got somebody out very fast. The contractor was a local electrician. He returned my call within three or four hours. I told him I was on a limited time frame and he fit me in that day. He was very professional in his time here with his partner. They fixed two outside electrical receptacles for me which have been working fine since.

My air conditioner was having some issues that came to light when I had my regular inspection done and the techs who came put a hard start on it. American Home Shield came out and checked it out and tried to fix it but there was nothing they could do. The tech was professional and informative but there really wasn't much that he could tell me. He checked everything and said that the unit was clean which was what I paid the local company to do for me on a regular basis so it was like I spent the $75 fee to reaffirm that the other company did a good job.
Also, with the sale of my home in Pensacola, I found out that I had purchased a maintenance policy with AHS but I didn't know about it until I got the maintenance done. I didn't know that it covered things like gas and rekeying the locks which is one of the first things that I wanna do when I take possession of a new place. We recently had a claim with AHS regarding our Jandy control system. The motherboard was totally non-functioning or defective. They sent a technician here and he had never seen anything like it. It’s a very common system here in Florida but he seemed to be very puzzled and stumped by the whole thing. He was on the phone talking to his supervisor but they finally figured out something. They put a new control motherboard in it and then he came back. It took him at least three trips.
It was a $1,000 electronic motherboard and he put it in and immediately blew it out and ruined it. He said it was because he's not an electrician but he should have known something if he did not do or cross-wired or something, or failed to turn off something. As soon as he turned the power on, it just smacked it again. So they replaced it with another motherboard. They were just not very competent.
The technician did get it up and working but I still had to call another pool company to come and sort the whole system out. The settings on it were not what they should have been and I finally called my own local pool company. I had them go through it and he said, “This was set wrong and that was set wrong. This valve was set correctly.”
American Home Shield seems to be an excellent company. They’re very responsive. I communicate online and they get back immediately. They pay claims and when they had refused a claim, it wasn't a big thing. I’m very pleased with their customer service. However, I'm not 100% satisfied with some of the contractors. Some of them are third-rate. It’s almost like they’ve taken the cheapest contractors. Whoever gives them the cheapest price shows up. Some of them gets the job done but some of them bumble around like they don’t know what they’re doing. But as far as AHS I would recommend them to anybody. They just need to upgrade the quality of those technical service people.

We had an issue with our dryer as well and American Home Shield pretty much got companies that were able to get out to us in a timely manner. We had one issue with the pool company but American Home Shield sent someone else out and they were beyond measure. So we didn't have any problems with them at all the second time around.
I also understand that some things don't always happen the way that they should. But if the company is willing to assess it and have someone else come out and make sure that everything is deemed to be corrected in a timely manner, a lot of people would look at that as a huge benefit. So American Home Shield did perfectly there. Since they took care of the issue with the pool, our experience has been more than exceptional. From here on out, I don’t see any issues and I will continue doing services with Home Shield.

My air conditioning was not working right. The contractor AHS sent cleaned everything and they said the thermostat was bad. They put a new thermostat in. When it got cooler, I went to turn the heat on and the heat will not work, but the emergency heat will. So AHS sent another company out last week and something about the circuit board was disconnected so I need a new circuit board now. So we don’t know if the guy who was here before did that or not considering we just bought the house in February.
The contractor gotta come back, and they haven’t called me to come back yet. The first contractor I wasn’t too impressed with. He was here 11:30 and didn’t leave until almost 5:30. He said he was cleaning the furnace or the unit inside, and then he said that he had to put the thermostat on, which the thermostat worked fine for me before. We didn’t think that was the issue. But with the second contractor I was totally impressed with him. He told me the different things he was doing and explained things. The money that I pay AHS per month or per year is well worth it.

I submitted my claims with American Home Shield on the phone at first then I started doing it online. I find their online site is fairly easy to use. They replaced the oven in my house and I almost just bought it myself because it was such a pain in the backside to get through to them. I would be on hold for 40 minutes at a time, and I was very unhappy about that. We were having problems with the oven and when the serviceman got there, he said that the tag with the model number was so old that it was half gone. He had no way of knowing what to order for it. He decided it needed to be replaced. The lady I talked to that had something to do with appliance purchasing was really nice. She called me back when she said she would so I found that refreshing.
Also, other than the wait time, I’m a little at odds with who AHS sends out and the caliber of these people. I’ve had one appliance guy and I ended up telling him I didn’t want him back. I also told American Home Shield that I didn’t want him back out there, but they ended up sending him out when the oven had to be put in. They delivered the oven and installed it. My son said the two guys that were there had no clue on what to do to put that in, and that he had to help them. I wasn't there when it happened, but I find that very unprofessional if somebody who lives there has to help the guy that was supposed to be installing for us. That was their job.
Moreover, Drain Masters had to come out there the second time for the kitchen sink. And when they put the auger down in our drain, most of them have gotten a deal with screws on the end of it that clears the pipe out. They don’t use anything on theirs and I asked why they don’t have a tether on that auger. He said that it was a liability issue. But if they're doing the job half right, what’s the point of doing it? Still, he was nice and I enjoyed talking to him.
I’ve rented the house to my son and his wife, and it’s the second time they can’t use the sink or the dishwasher. It’s getting a little old and it’s almost to the point to where I wonder if I need to go look at how much these augers cost with the ends on it and do it myself. But as far as I know, they did not charge me for the second visit and they shouldn’t have because that was a recall. This could be ongoing because they don’t have anything on the end of that cable to actually cut the problem out.
I wish American Home Shield used better quality and knowledgeable people. The people that came out were just patching stuff up. I got that impression that they were not really trying to fix it right. I wish I have known about their appliance purchase program before we got in this as far as what we did because I bought a dishwasher and a refrigerator locally and put them in that house. When I saw how much they got that oven for and what it would’ve cost me at Lowe’s for it, I wish I’d have bought it through AHS. That would’ve saved me the money for the whole thing, where I would’ve recouped what I spent for the warranty for the year right there just on the refrigerator alone.
American Home Shield's home warranty has its good and not so good things. But it beats nothing. This is the first home warranty people that I’ve ever had to deal with, and the first warranty that we’ve ever had on our home so I’m not dissatisfied with it. I’m glad we’ve gotten it. It’s worth having and I would recommend it, but I wish they do things a little differently on who they sent out.

American Home Shield is worth the investment. I had my AC out for a planned cleaning and it turned out to be the compressor. AHS sent somebody out and diagnosed it. The contractor got the part in and came back, but the part they put in was defective so they ordered another one. AHS approved the order and the contractor came back out and fixed the AC. I haven’t had a problem since. I submitted the claim online and the website was perfect. It was user-friendly and it lets you know exactly what you need to do.

We had a problem with our air conditioning and American Home Shield sent somebody out to repair it. The technician added Freon to it which took care of the problem for about four months. But all of a sudden, the air conditioner stopped cooling altogether. So, we called in another claim. A gentleman came and found that the Freon level was good, but there were a couple of other issues with some of the motors or the mechanism. He repaired it and within the next day, the house was cool again. Now that it turns cold outside, we use heat more than the AC, but the air conditioner is working okay.
However, I still don't have a clear understanding of exactly what was done. I never got any statement or a summary of what was done from American Home Shield. I was also hoping that the $100 that I paid on the past claim would cover my service fee for this claim. But they said that because more than 60 days had passed, it counts as a new claim even though it was for the same component. Still, the gentleman who came was good and he knew what was going on. He moved very efficiently and quickly but he was courteous. He also let me know when he was done.

There was an issue with my water heater, and the first people that came out said that it was not working because of the fact that it was connected to a solar-powered water heater, which was never on. So, I had to get another person to come out and American Home Shield was trying to charge me $75 for another person to come out because it was a different diagnosis, when they said I wasn't gonna get charged if it wasn't a different diagnosis. They were saying that I wasn't covered, but when the second people came out, they said I was.
Most recently, I noticed that there was a big puddle of water underneath my washing machine during the middle of one of my laundry sessions. It was leaking everywhere and it wasn't fun. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and I was very pleased with the response time. We had to wait for the company to get the products so that they could replace everything that was messed up. The contractor was very straightforward and the very first time he came in, he was blunt. He said what he was gonna do, opened up the washing machine and indicated what was wrong with it. He was in and out in about 25 minutes which was very fast. Nothing seems to be messing up with the machine since the repair and it runs quieter now, so it is awesome.

We’ve had American Home Shield for a long time and they have always been really good. When my refrigerator went out, a repair guy from Mr. Appliance came to look at it. He was great and I was on a first name basis with him after the refrigerator problem. He came out three times but he couldn’t fix my refrigerator. He called American Home Shield and told them that. Then I called them the next day and they said that was fine. They turned me over to claims and they said they would find a model like I had and give me an allowance on whatever it was. Then a week later, I got a check for a new refrigerator. Not having a working fridge for weeks was an inconvenience, but nothing spoiled and I got another refrigerator. Although it was a little bitty one and I had to take everything out, it worked out.

My tenants said one day that the air conditioning just stopped working, and I called that in. It's actually easier to submit the claim to American Home Shield over the internet but I had poor data on my phone at that time. I spoke with three different contractors. The first one was alright and it was easy to schedule and coordinate with my tenants. The contractor came over but they were not able to fix the AC. I think we were misdiagnosed when that happened. We were then referred to some other contractor but when I spoke with the guy, he said they didn’t deal with this kind of service. So, we were forwarded to a third one and they actually asked specific questions regarding the issue. They also thought that we were misdiagnosed and so they sent someone out here. And now, the AC is all fixed and everything is fine.

I picked one at random that I thought could've fit, but I was still able to get pointed in the right direction. I got there at the end of the day but they probably could put it more in layman's terms. I'm a HVAC guy, but I didn't know if it was the furnace or the heater. Luckily, I picked the right one. A contractor came, replaced the part, and was also able to do the seasonal service on it. So, it was very nice. But they called me around lunchtime the first time they came out to see about the problem, and they said they were on their way. And I loved it. I was able to go out and get some things done. I had routine maintenance on my furnace and AccuTemp, the company that I used, told me I had a crack in the heat exchanger. I called American Home Shield, which what I usually do when I submit claims, and their reps were very pleasant. American Home Shield sent a company out, but the contractor told me he couldn't find it.
If there's a crack in your heat exchanger, you have to worry about carbon monoxide poisoning. So, I called American Home Shield back and asked them to send another contractor. The lady said that she could do that, but it would be another $100 service fee. I told her that if they find the crack, then I won't pay that fee, and she agreed. She then sent the second company out.
AccuTemp also sent somebody out and they were delayed. When their tech came, he did a film and showed me the crack. I called American Home Shield again because if it has already passed 30 days, I had to pay another $100 to have another company come out. They sent another company and I showed the contractor the video. He then went up there and said my furnace needed to be replaced.
I again called American Home Shield and asked them what the buyout was because I wanted a better furnace in there than what I was gonna get. The rep told me it was $600. I had the company that comes out twice a year put a new furnace in and paid $3,000 for it. I've sent the paperwork to American Home Shield 10 days ago to get the $600 reimbursed, but the rep told me that after they got the paperwork, it would take anywhere from 10 to 14 business days to get the reimbursement.
So far, my dealings with American Home Shield have been professional. Of course, they are watching their bottom line, too, which I understand. But if I had not persisted, I wouldn't have had another company come out. I would've just taken their word for it, but I wasn't willing to do that. I didn't trust the first and second guy who came out, and I was just shocked that I wouldn't get more than $600 reimbursement. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield. They're better than the other company I've had in the past.
Hi, Anne. I am glad that you did insist on another company coming out. A cracked heat exchanger can be harmful over time if it is not replaced. The buyout cost was based on our cost and is always below a retail cost. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience.

I had electrical and air conditioning issues, and to my surprise, both were handled very well by American Home Shield. A couple of years back, I had them and I was treated like dirt. This particular time was very good. My air conditioning went out and I couldn’t figure it out so, I called American Home Shield. The contractor came and said that I had a short in my outlet. I told them I have never heard of such a thing because it wasn’t at the fuse box and it wasn’t one with the circuit breakers. He said my air conditioning unit was plugged into it and the outlet itself went bad.
I asked him how it happened and I wanted him to show me the outlet, and he goes, “Blah, blah, blah.” I was kinda scratching my head because based on the troubleshooting issue, I could have known a little bit more about my house. I’m a handyman myself and I wanted to know a little bit about what happened and they just fixed the outlet rather than explaining a little bit. The normal person just wants it fixed but I wanted to know the reason why.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for eight years and I had an issue with an air conditioning at another property that I was very dissatisfied with but AHS came through. I hope that it continues to be that way because that is their best advertisement. I will be telling people that they all need to go to American Home Shield. I told my girlfriend and she has AHS in the other side of town. I don’t want them to come out immediately. Within a day is fine. The water heater that they had ordered had not come in yet, so they were unable to come by. But once it came by, they were able to come right out. Then they came out within the time that they stated. They were professional, took care of the problem quickly, and did not do any damage or uncleanliness to the house.
I would recommend American Home Shield. I'll let others know of my experience, some of the issues I’ve had, and how they took care of them. Having AHS could be worth it for some major issues that you might have. He didn’t have what he needed on the truck but he got it very timely. He was also very personable and professional. He made me a priority while he was here and respected my home. He took his shoes off, put on some little slipper things that they carried and cleaned up after himself.
However, I did have an issue with AHS and I just got over it. I knew I was leaving the country for a time period and the bill would come due while I was gone, so I called to see what my renewal fee would be, and I was given a number. They were very pleasant and the air conditioner has been working very well since the repair.
So far, AHS has done a very good job and they sent emails to indicate when the technicians would be coming out. All the contractors that AHS have sent out were very professional in the way they handled things and everything’s working the way it’s supposed to. I would recommend AHS. If you’re in a situation where you need appliance repairs, you should go ahead and get a contract because it will definitely pay for itself, especially if you have any older appliances that need to be repaired.

AHS has been great and responsive to any complaint that I may have. I always go online and put in my request and before I know it, I get an email and then a phone call from the vendor. All the vendors that they've sent had been good although there have been one or two companies who weren't great. There was one company who was great but they didn't work weekends for religious reasons so I had to bring somebody else in. I bought an older mobile and I expected wonky things to happen so I keep the American Home Shield policy. I put in a claim for my back bathroom which didn't have any water pressure and they sent a tech who was very nice and cool. I have also suggested to lots of people to get AHS.

I’m a real estate agent and my daughter was selling her house, which we were getting a home warranty for. I started doing some research and figured American Home Shield was the best one to get for the money. I always had a Public Service worry-free contract, which is good, but it’s not complete. I realized that a home warranty is so much better than having the worry-free contract. We purchased a warranty for the property she sold and I purchased a warranty for my house too. I still carry the worry-free contract for the next month or so because I was a little shaky about not having maintenance because I’ve always had something and I’m by myself.
It seemed great that my daughter bought a house in Florida and as a housewarming gift, I got them American Home Shield. In two months, I bought three of them. Around July, my AC wasn’t blowing cold air and I called in my first claim because I didn’t know the procedure. I get a little leery about things online because I feel like nobody’s paying attention. I talked to a human being and they couldn’t have been nicer. I had their cellphones. They called me. They called back to make sure I was okay and the experience couldn’t have been better. They sent somebody out who charged the AC, but about a month later, it wasn’t doing cold air again and AHS sent somebody else out from the same company (Temp Rite), but a different person.
He said that the Freon was so low that he could not charge it. This was when the 100-degree weather started and that was on a Friday. He said they had to have somebody else to check it. It was the coil that was wrong with it and the coil specialist wouldn’t be out until Monday. So Monday, they came out and said it was the evaporator coil and they had to order it. The week went by and they said they needed something special from American Home Shield. It went on into the next week and this was when we were having a heat wave. I called my account representative at American Home Shield and she proceeded to escalate it to someone else. When they called and started to track things down, Temp Rite had not done their job. They had not followed through.
The account representative told me to get somebody local, so I wasn’t being any more inconvenienced. I called a local heating and air conditioning company. RPM came out as soon as they could and they were thorough and complete. They have a great reputation and they live up to it. They did a beautiful job and made sure everything was done right. I couldn’t be happier with them. They confirmed that it wasn’t the evaporator coil. They fed up the AC and it started running, but fireworks started coming out. The tech said it was shot, so we needed a new one. American Home Shield okayed that. It’s done and everything’s been wonderful. It was my first experience with a home warranty company and I didn’t know what everything was, but they were good.
Temp Rite dropped the ball and really screwed. They told AHS one thing and told me something else. AHS went right in and took care of it. I run two brokerage firms with over 200 agents and if they ask me about a home warranty, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. Get the whole package. Don’t get the cheap one. Get the big one. Pay for it. It's worth it. Don’t doubt them.

I submitted claims online with AHS for my washer and my ice maker. The whole user interface, the ease of submitting the ticket and getting things scheduled, were all fantastic. The technician took a look at the icemaker, went out and took apart the washer. He ID’d the parts that he needed and they were able to get those secured, and then the work was scheduled. He ended up injuring himself so I thought we were gonna have to postpone it for a week or two, but then they managed to come in on a Saturday that worked for us and for them. They knocked it out and I was very impressed with both the professionalism and the willingness of that kind of existing field tech who brought a junior tech with him and used it as kind of a training experience. I was happy to be a part of that as well.
The washer and icemaker are now perfect, like a brand-new. Overall, it was super easy for us, and that’s something that we've always experienced with AHS. They have always been very solid when it comes to being able to get us addressed quickly and getting things knocked out when they needed to even though that’s been just a few times.

I have a dual stage air conditioning unit in my house, one upstairs and one downstairs. The downstairs unit quit running so I called American Home Shield. They had service guys from GSSN come out. It took them a couple of days to get to my place. Every time I've had to call in, it has been a few days before a contractor comes. When my hot water heater went out last year, it was a week before somebody got out there. So, my complaint has been the turnaround of the service call. For the air conditioner, that issue is the product of only having so many certified technicians that do the warranty work. It was just a bad relay in the air compressor, the startup part of the air conditioner.
GSSN has been out to the house quite a few times, and they always seem to do a great job. I have no issues with them. I'd recommend GSSN. They're a good outfit. I'm also good with American Home Shield. The only thing I didn’t care for was when the hot water heater was replaced, they covered the replacement but did not cover the updated codes that had to be updated.
I don’t have an issue with updating to make sure everything’s compliant with the new codes. What I do have an issue though with is the catch pan for the hot water heater, which is a $20 item that I can go to any Home Depot or Lowe’s and purchase for $20. American Home Shield charged me for the upgrade $125 for the catch pan. I don’t mind paying for the code updates to remain compliant like the gas sensor, and the exhaust pipes, but when it's something as simple as a catch pan, I'm paying four times the money for it.
Still, American Home Shield has been great. Anything that’s ever had to be done to my home has been done fairly quickly. I understand that in the summertime, everybody’s got air conditioning problems and I understand it takes a couple of days to get to me. All in all, I'm very satisfied with AHS and we'll continue our business with them.

There are times when you try to call American Home Shield for anything where you will wait on hold for 45 minutes and have to hang up and when you call again it's the same thing. I hate sounding like I don’t like foreign people, but sometimes, people answer that you really can’t understand. They’re limited in the English language as to the words they understand. Everybody has that complaint.
When they got some contractor to come for my furnace, it was fine, except that the first person they sent out didn’t figure it out correctly. When they came out again, they realized that something additional was wrong so they ordered the part. It’s not their fault that the part has been hard to get, but it’s probably been a week and they still haven’t fixed the furnace. But they called yesterday and they’re coming out tomorrow. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I've had a great experience with American Home Shield up to this point. Having the warranty is convenient and the service is exceptional. It's well worth the money. When I had issues with my appliances, they said because my issues were all appliances, just one person would come out. It's only one claim. The buttons on my washer didn't work right all the time. The ice maker made ice sporadically, and the dishwasher was leaking on the floor. Submitting the claim was simple.
I preferred to speak with somebody so I called in. They listened to what I had to say and then committed to having somebody get in touch with me within a certain time frame once they were able to find whoever serviced the type of appliances I had. Then that person contacted me within that appropriate amount of time. The contractor was excellent and very professional. They sent me a picture of the technician first off and they were committed to that. I felt that was cool so at least I knew he was coming to the house. Then when he got there, he was very courteous, did whatever he needed to do and did it in the time frame that he said he was gonna get it done in. After the repair, I was able to go on with life. It made life better and more convenient.

I am very impressed with American Home Shield. They're very responsive and automated. Once you get your account set up, you don’t need to sit online. If you have to call in, make sure you got 45 minutes if you got to call in on a midday. But online, you can just log in and submit your request. When my water heater was broken, I opened up a claim online and requested a plumber to come out. The plumber came out, said the water heater was shot and needed to be replaced. So, he then gave me an estimate. He came up with a couple options and I found the water heater that I wanted to do. I opted to move to a gas in-line, which was a lot more, so AHS gave me a cash-in-lieu offer on it. Then I got the cash, and I installed a gas fired in-line water heater.
The plumber was gonna try and submit his bill, and then reduce the cost because they gave me a reimbursement amount. What I put in was more expensive. I was negotiating with him, and I wanted to run it through American Home Shield. Instead of taking the cash-in-lieu, he could make it a discount onto the work. That could have been an easier transition, but I have a refrigerator replaced with American Home Shield. It went through the cash-in-lieu process. They sent me a link that said, “Hey, pick this refrigerator out.” And I said, “I don’t want any of those. I’ll take the cash-in-lieu,” and I bought a different refrigerator. So that worked.
I would have liked to see the water heater go to that path. The plumber was gonna put in a standard water heater, and I didn’t want his water heater. It would have been electric. It didn’t meet the needs I needed. I had a big water heater in there. And he came back and said, “Well, they don’t make that anymore. I’m gonna put this in.” When I told him that I wanted gas, he said, “Well, you need to go and get a cash-in-lieu, and we can put a gas in,” whereas the appliance worked a little bit different. They could have put up a link that said, “Hey, here’s hot water heaters. Go look at them.” But they didn’t do it like they did the appliance.
The appliance was a good stream. They said, "We’re gonna replace your refrigerator. Here’s the link, pull up the page, pick a refrigerator.” I could have done the same thing for our water heater. I could have looked at the hot water heater options and if I didn’t like anything, I could have done a cash-in-lieu. Instead, I had to go through the plumber to do that. So it got a little confusing. We’re still working through it. The water heater’s in. He’s still got to come out to fix some stuff. But all in all, it’s been great.

One time, I had a problem with both my washer and my dryer at my rental property. The dryer was screaming and making a bunch of noises. On the other hand, the door switch of the washer was going out and I had to press the door really hard for it to come on. I called my issue in to AHS and their reps were very good. They sent a tech from Stewart's who came within 24 hours. He called me because he had to pick a part up which happened to be the right part at the time for the washing machine. Though he had to come back another time for the dryer, he was still very cooperative and he fixed it. Other people should always use American Home Shield. The few times that I've used their service, it has always been very good.
Hi Patrick,

It’s more convenient for me to file a claim over the phone. You can get a lot of feel from a conversation and get the element of tone. Dealing with the reps of AHS has been favorable. My water heater was replaced, however, I’m not in love with AHS because it cost me $900 out of pocket to bring the water heater up to code. But other than the fact that they didn’t cover everything I was hoping that they would cover, I got a timely response. I was connected with two different organizations that were both very competent, very adequate. They came on time. They did what they had to and were fairly neat. I would definitely recommend AHS.

The fan of our air conditioning unit outside wasn't turning off which caused the system to overheat. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, but I did it online because calling in takes forever to get somebody on the phone. I've tried it before and sat for two hours waiting to finally get somebody on the phone. Sometimes it's quick, but most of the time, that would take a long time. Their reps have been professional every time I interacted with them, but the wait time is too extravagant.
AHS sends someone out very quickly and it usually takes a day or two. Comfort First Heating and Cooling came out and the technician said that it was a faulty switch relay. It was always electrical issues with it. It worked then something was wrong. I feel that no one's getting to the bottom of what was causing the problems, over and over again so it was costing me a lot more money overall.
Our experience with their technicians has always been pleasant. But the problem has been the system. I've had to do a work order on it 15 times in the past two years and every time, it was something different. If I'm putting two work orders in a month, that's a lot of money I'm still spending paying the premium deduction. Plus on top of that, I'm paying some extra thing for $200 a month, instead of only 44 a month for the trade service fee. Other than that, American Home Shield is great. I'm buying a second home and I'm gonna pick them up also.

However, AHS decided it was too much to fix and that they would just order a new one. It took a couple of weeks for them to resolve it. My mom and stepdad also phoned in a claim for the AC unit that was in a lake house which was far to any of the providers and was hard to try to get somebody to come out there. So when the contractors came, everybody was very happy. And in both times, they were very happy with the contractors that were sent out.

We called American Home Shield and submitted a claim for our air conditioner. The company they sent out had to come out four times for the same thing. They wouldn't listen to my husband. He told them what was wrong with the unit but they just said, "We gotta do this." They had to go change the part, and then they had to get another part. Then they took something off and broke something, so they had another day to work on my AC. The whole repair from beginning to end took four days when it was 90 degrees and I was having a breathing problem. Despite the issue with the contractor, we never had a problem with AHS itself.

MY AC wasn’t working and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. They sent out a contractor, Infinity Air, and the tech came out and said that the AC was low on Freon. I questioned that because I had put in that unit in 2013, then the compressor went out in 2016, so the AC has only been used for one season. Still, the tech put in three pounds of Freon, which I had to pay for. But the AC still didn’t work right and they put something for the leaking. Then they said that the coils were bad and they ordered one, but it was the wrong size and was too big for the AC. They told me that it would cost between $2,000 and $3,000 to replace the coil, but they just needed the coils cleaned. They also overcharged me for the Freon and I called them to get my money back, but they wouldn’t give me my $160 back and that was a waste.
All those repairs went on for a month. I have a family with pregnant lady that lived there and at that time, the temperature was 105 degrees, so I had to buy an air conditioning unit just to cool one room down till we could get the situation resolved. I called AHS to complain and let them know about the issues. At first, the reps were saying that there was not much they could do. I ended up calling another company out to fix the problem. After I got the problem resolved, I called AHS back and let them know everything. Rose, the girl that handled the matter at that time, was nice and pretty good. The service fee was deducted and AHS reimbursed me $75 because of all the problems. Prior to that, I was perturbed, but we resolved it all.
In the ten years that I've been with AHS, my experience with them has been fine overall and they have been pretty good to me. But I went through three plumbers and ended up paying an extra service charge because I didn’t believe what the plumber said and I ended up right. Also, I hate going through several contractors until I find the right one. AHS needs to get decent contractors and do a more thorough job on the contractors that they have working for them.

AHS' customer service was nice and very helpful. When we had a claim for our air conditioner, they helped in finally finding someone to come out. They had some contractor that they used but he didn’t wanna come out because the payment system was messed up. AHS got that resolved and the contractor came out and fixed my air conditioning. He was fine. When our light switch was messed up and didn't work, I called in my claim to AHS and pushed a couple of buttons. Someone called me and set up a time to come out. A contractor came out and the light works now.
With AHS, a claim is a pretty easy process as long as they have a contractor that works in the area. You don’t have to speak to someone every time on the phone. You can just push buttons and it's set up. I like not having to wait on hold to speak to someone when I'm in a hurry. Some people might not like that, though. And as long as AHS' payment system is fixed and the contractors get paid, they'll come out and do the job. I like AHS so far.

I turned on the heater of my AC unit and it died on me. It had no power, so I called AHS. They sent out K&J Mechanical to check it out but they weren't able to fix it. So, I called AHS again. They sent an electrician out and they fixed it. AHS is pretty proficient when I call. Usually, they give me some contractors and the contractors call me the next day or that day if I call early. However, everything is automated. So, I have to wait and press to talk to a representative so I could actually explain. But other than that, it's great.
I did have one issue, though. I had to call AHS in July for my AC unit. And the company that came out tried to scam me. My compressor went on the AC unit and I had to prepay the Freon. American Home Shield only pays $10 out of each pound. So, I had to prepay it for 11 pounds, so they could come and do the service. So, I had to pay out of pocket $880. I stayed there with the contractors the whole time and then I asked the guy when he was done, how many pounds did it take and he told me seven. So, I'm still fighting since August for a refund for $270.
When it first happened, the lady from AHS said that they could not do anything and that it was the vendor. So, I did that. I called American Home Shield about it the last time I made a service call about a couple of weeks ago. They said they were gonna call me back Monday with their vendor department people. And that was three weeks ago and I'm still waiting for a phone call. I call AHS every week and every week they tell me they put it in but I'm still waiting. Other than that, American Home Shield works for me. It's great and it saves money. I'd tell others to get it as well. There were a lot of people that recently got a house in a storm and they don't know anything about insurances like that and I refer AHS all the time.

I’m an Uber driver, so I have to leave quickly. So the garage door not working properly has been a nightmare. Before we had AHS, we had people try to fix it and they just did shoddy little work on it and they didn’t fix it.
The contractor AHS sent (Legends Garage Door) was fantastic and their technician was awesome. There was a whole bunch of different things wrong and he fixed everything. He tried to line up the sensor, but he couldn’t get it to line up. So he replaced that and that wasn’t even what we thought was broken with it. The dishwasher broke three weeks after we moved into our home. I went online with the handy app that American Home Shield have, and submitting the claim was all done with a push of a button. It's very convenient and very simple. The first tech that came out was outstanding. He gave us the straight scoop that it was irreparable. The dishwasher pump was seized up and he said that it needed to be replaced. He put in the requisition thing, and then I got a call back from American Home Shield in a timely manner. They gave me my options as far as what units were available and what my choices would be. So, we selected the replacement appliance. But it wasn't a good experience because when the appliance came in, the company that initially was coming out to install, was useless.
We waited for a week for the appliance to come in, which was okay. But the installer that American Home Shield was contracted with was horrible. They were just ridiculous. They walked in, looked at the job and said that they didn't do this kind of work. They pretty much took their tools and left. It was pretty bad. I filed a complaint against them. I called back into American Home Shield, and it was phenomenal. They had an installer out within 24 hours, who actually knew what they were doing.
American Home Shield is doing their best to get people off there, representing them and doing a good job. They can't totally predict if we're gonna get a pair of idiots that came out and didn't want to work that day because it was evident that they didn't wanna work. When I filed my complaint about the initial installers that came out, American Home Shield was great. They recovered nicely, and the dishwasher was paid in full, outside of my $75 deductible. Everything has been fine since. It was just a rough situation with the installer, and it had nothing to do with American Home Shield at all.

The pilot light went out on my water heater. When I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for that plumbing issue, it was a combination of going online and calling them because I was trying to get it expedited. Initially, they referred me to a plumber out of Tri-Cities, which is 50 miles away and it was gonna be 72 hours for them to respond. I called AHS back and asked them to change the contractor to a local plumber because I wanted quicker service. They referred me to another contractor, A-1 Plumbing, that was here locally and A-1's plumber came out that afternoon and helped me relight the water heater. The claim went well and everything is working fine now. A-1 is one of the best plumbing outfits in the area. They did some work for me before when I had another claim with AHS for a water leak in the house. I had called AHS before I called A-1, so I knew that they're an authorized contractor of AHS. A-1 did a first class job in both cases.
When I first moved in, I also had a refrigerator that quit working. The computer and the ice maker had gone out on it. I got a claim going with AHS and they responded quickly and got a repairman in here. He replaced the ice maker and the computer on the refrigerator. But two weeks later, the ice maker quit working again.
I didn't let AHS know that the refrigerator wasn't working again and I just bought a new refrigerator. I didn't think they would have been as quick to respond on a replacement refrigerator and if all they were gonna do was have the old refrigerator repaired again, I didn't want anything to do with that because I was fed up with that refrigerator at that point. It was obvious that I bought a lemon, so I wanted it out of my house. Too bad it was a high-end refrigerator and very expensive to replace, but I'll put that on me and I can't necessarily blame AHS for that experience. Despite that, I would recommend getting an AHS warranty to anybody who is buying a home.

We needed a new pool heater and I put in a claim. AHS gave me the name of the company. I called them and I made the appointment. The pipe is kind of like a T. From the same pipe, one goes into the house and the other one goes to the pool house. When the technicians were taking the old heater out for the pool, they didn’t disconnect the gas line when they were trying to maneuver it around. The gas line cracked so it was leaking natural gas.
I called We Energies to come out because it was an outside pipe and we weren’t sure how to close it. We had to hire a plumber to replace the pipe. Supposedly, American Home Shield would replace the pipe if it was in the house but it wasn't. We ended up paying to have a new gas line buried and it was 80 feet from where the side of the house is to the pool house.
Also, when a new pipe was brought, it wasn't placed so it was solid and it didn't wobble. With a hard gas line, it has to be solidly mounted so it doesn’t have the problem of shifting and possibly breaking the gas line. The flue had to be replaced because the one that was there wouldn’t fit it. The technicians didn't have pride in their workmanship. They kinda rushed to get it done. There were screws missing, too, from the cover for it. A special shield had to be put in for the exhaust.
I’m not happy with the way that the technicians did things. They left the box that the new flue came in and they didn’t connect the new flue to the top of the heater, so that also can be moved around in that. They just didn’t do their job. Our regular pool guy that comes here to drain the pool saw what the technicians had done and said that they didn't measure. There was no room to maneuver around it anymore. At least with the old one, there was a couple of inches that you wouldn’t be hitting the heater to take the cover off to get to the filters.
Otherwise, I like American Home Shield. That was why I switched to them. But when someone originally takes on American Home Shield, they should prepare the consumer as far as “Your deductible will be $100 per incident.” If that’s what they’re gonna do, then they should subtract whatever the cash would be to make it $100. They should also mention that depending on what state you live in, they’re gonna charge tax.

It's almost impossible every time I call AHS. The hold time there is too long. But the two times I filed a claim, I've just done it on the recorded line and it's been pretty straightforward. They were responsive. By the time I got off the phone, I had a text message with the company that was gonna service it. They have an automated system where you can request help and that usually dispatches someone out or creates a ticket for the issue. What impressed was even though it wasn’t resolved the first time, they stayed on top of it and checked in to see if it was working, and was squeezing me in as they have a bunch of appointments. They were pretty flexible. I wish it had been done right the first time, but it seems to be working fine now.
AHS has been pretty straightforward. There's only been two times I've used AHS that I've had to use the automated system. I've never talked to a live person so that would be, at best, provide more comfort in the future. I haven't had any issues with this but if you have questions or want more information you would love to talk to a live person. I would recommend AHS as long as one would be okay using the automated system. But if you want to talk to a live person, that’s not a strength of theirs.

I really had a wonderful experience with him.
Another time, I had another claim for my tub and American Home Shield sent a young man out. He looked at the thing and said that the motor was working. He said he could not fix it and left. My water pump still doesn’t work, however, and I’m out $75. American Home Shield won’t cover anything but that pump and I’m disturbed by the whole situation. He was a nice enough young man, but I already knew the pump was working before he even came out there and I called so they could work on this tub. I'm frustrated. Maybe they’re gonna resolve the problem later on but I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield right now.

American Home Shield is the worst company I ever had dealt with. When my A/C broke in the middle of June's heat in Arizona, they left me and my family in brutal AZ temperatures above 105 degrees. 3 days waiting before they sent their 'expert' A/C company. When their so called 'tech' arrived first he made sure that he got his $125 service fee covered. Then, he hardly took time to check the A/C unit before telling me that he needs to order a part and it will take anywhere between 10 - 15 business days before he can come back with the part to install it and have the unit fixed. Of course, I told him that I did not want to have any business with him or with AHS anymore. My friendly advice to you is to do yourselves a favor and forget about the American Home Shield and give your business elsewhere to some serious professionals who will care about you.
Good morning Rod,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent AHS experience to have the air conditioner repaired. Per your review, the issue was not repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the situation that has occurred.

My washing machine was making a lot of noise when I tried to wash. It sounded like something was grinding together. When the guy came in, he told me what was going on. The issue ended up being something that was stripped in the motor and it was making a lot of noise. He explained it to me in detail and he answered every question I had. He told me what he was gonna do and how he had to do it. Then when he found something else that was gonna be a problem in the future, he showed it to me. He said that it was gonna cause me a problem and mess up my house. Then he went out and fixed that too. He was so honest and upfront, and he did great. I really appreciate him. This was the second time I called on American Home Shield and I've gotten great results so far. I'm pleased.
Hi, Kenneth. Sounds like you had the technician that dreams are made of! That is amazing and thank you for letting us know how pleased you are with American Home Shield.

We made a claim with American Home Shield for an AC issue and the guy from Total Heating took forever to get to us. Normally, people get to us within 48 hours or sooner than that. AHS has been really good. I had to call and ask why he had not contacted me yet. Then they gave me the number. The guy was friendly in person but in the beginning, he was rude on the phone. But I know it was the busiest time and it was hot, and everybody's stuff was breaking. When he came out, he was nice and he fixed the problem. He said, "What's the problem?" and I completely walked him through it because my little one did it. The person that had first came out a year ago for one of the air conditioners was better than the guy from Total Heating. He was nicer and more professional.
Since the repair, our AC has been working good and it's not hot anymore. When I turn it on, it feels like he should've checked a little bit more to make sure it was completely good. But, it's fine now. American Home Shield were on their business, and they got to me and made me call him and they were finding out what was going on with him. People talk bad about AHS, but I haven't had a bad experience yet. So far, so good.

My washing machine had an error code. I filed a claim online and American Home Shield's website is much better than the other one I've used. The tech who came out was a nice guy. He was only there for about 15 minutes. He fixed the one code where it worked, but it was another part. So, he ordered the part and then came back in three days to install it. It was very easy and everything worked out just fine. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

I couldn't open our oven. The hinges on the door quit working. I called in a claim, AHS set it up and a guy called. He came a couple days later, took it all apart and ordered the parts. The parts were UPSed here and the next day, the guy came and fixed the oven. The oven is great and it's better than buying a new one. This was the third time that I used AHS since we’ve lived here and it was a pretty simple process. The first time we used them, it was for the air conditioner.
When I bought the house, the homeowner had to supply the warranty first because I got a VA loan. The air conditioner went out within that first year. We called AHS, paid the 75 bucks service call and the contractor fixed it. I did the math and it would be close to five years of paying for the warranty that I would have broken even if I had to pay for the AC out of pocket. The dishwasher broke last year and then the stove recently. These things are not expensive. But still, 75 bucks is a lot cheaper. AHS has been pretty great and everyone sent out here has been really excellent. I’m glad I kept AHS after the first year on the house was up. I’ve recommended them to quite a few people.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield is very easy when I do it over the internet. Sometimes, I have to call it in because the internet won't take it and that's when it takes a little longer. Also, the contractors they send out are pretty good but I don't like the plumbing company they use here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Most recently, my furnace was red-tagged when the city came over because it wasn't meeting some vacuums and they said it needed to be replaced. I called AHS and asked them to come over and fix it. This plumbing company they sent out didn't replace it and just went ahead and fixed it. They said it just needed cleaning.
I can't test the furnace because I don't live in the property so I don't know whether that was it but I will call AHS because I don't like those plumbing people. And I'm gonna call the city back again so they can re-check the system to see whether what the plumbing company did is correct. What the city detected was carbon monoxide so, I'm kinda concerned about that. The unit is 35 years old and the plumbing company should have replaced it. Other than that, American Home Shield is very good about everything. I never had any issues with them. If the plumber had recommended that they upgrade the unit, they would have gone along with it. I have AHS with all the properties that I have and I always recommend them to other people because they always come through.

Submitting the claim for our leaky pipe was super easy. I did it online. It was a couple of days before we noticed the issue but within 24 hours of submitting the claim, somebody had contacted me. The plumbing guy who came out from Crown Services was also super professional and very quick. The garage door company was a different matter though. It took a month from when I opened the claim to when it was actually repaired. It took multiple appointments and each time, it took weeks and weeks before they could get somebody out. They called me at least six times, asking me to move the appointments around after they were scheduled. It was to the point where they called me and I said no. I wasn't moving the appointment again. Then the next day, another woman called and asked me again. It was so ridiculous. I would never use them if it wasn't for American Home Shield.
At this point, it seems like they've fixed the issue. They fixed a gear that's supposed to allow the garage door to open and close. But it still sometimes doesn't wanna open. So I don't know if they're gonna have to come back out again or what I'm gonna have to do. But it hasn't been to the point that I've had to call somebody back out. The pipe issue with the sink seems to have been fixed well though.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for my washer, and the contractor was here in just a few days. The first guy thought he had it fixed but he didn’t really do anything. He put a little bit of water in it and then ran it through and you could run it through with a little bit of water in it but it didn't work if you put clothes in that little bit of water. So, I called back and told them that it hadn’t worked and they sent somebody else that came out.
I really liked the second guy that came out. He was great. He knew that it needed a couple of certain things, and he said it might need more stuff. He got it running, and then we got some clips when he tore it all apart to put this other stuff in. There were these little clips that he had to order. It took a while but it was all necessary stuff, and it was all very worth it. I was really happy. The washer has been wonderful since the repair.
I liked that American Home Shield was interested and they paid attention to me and called and checked to see how things were going. The only problem that we had was that because we thought it was fixed, they went ahead and took $110. And then because it wasn’t fixed, after it got fixed, they wanted another $110. But I called them and told them that they had taken this out on a certain day and they, in fact, said, "Yes, we did and we'll take care of this." But then they didn’t take care of it for a month or so later. I got another bill and I called to see if there was a problem that I did owe it, but I didn’t, so that was taken care of, too.

When my microwave broke, I submitted a request for support on American Home Shield’s website and their response was quick. A guy showed up a couple of days later and fixed it one time. He was nice and did the work promptly. But two weeks later, the microwave broke again. I don’t know why it is not fixed, but there must be something to work with. So, I had to reopen the inquiry for them to reopen the service request and the guy is supposed to come again.
I also learned two things with my American Home Shield experience. First, they are very difficult to get a hold of on the phone. I've called so many times and I've been always on hold. It's been always more than 30 minutes wait. Getting them on the chat has been much simpler, though. And second, I have a service payment issue ongoing for the other service inquiry. It has been more than a month and there has been no one to resolve the issue. They are just bouncing it in their departments and still, nothing is fixed. American Home Shield has to improve their customer service and have more manpower in their call center.

The liner had a leak in it and the filter was leaking, so we ended up paying for the new liner and then AHS picked up replacing the filter for us.
My only real complaint is the length of time that it takes for a technician to diagnose whatever the problem is and to get the authorization to do the repair or the replacement. Oftentimes that puts you in a very inconvenient situation. I had a problem with my refrigerator and the tech guy had the part on his truck, but he couldn’t replace it because he had to wait to get the authorization. It takes two or three days for the authorization to come through to even order the part, and then another two or three days for the parts to come in. Then, you’ve got a scheduling issue where you have to schedule your time with the technician’s time so they could come out to actually do the repair. The techs that have come out so far seem very capable, but they always have to come back. If the technician comes out and is allowed to get on the phone with an authorizing official from American Home Shield while he’s there on the job, they can do it right then and there.

I have seven properties under American Home Shield and I have an inside rep that I deal with directly. I file my claims over the phone, but if I have any problems, I can email my rep and she fixes it. I have more than one warranty but I can't make more than one password with my email, so I can't file my claims online, which is really annoying. I have to wait on hold forever when I call AHS. It takes about 40 minutes to call in and pay a bill. This is why I have one outstanding right now and I figured they will eventually call me because I can't sit on hold any longer. Other than that, everybody at AHS was really polite and they listen to what you say. But it's a problem if you don't get the people that speak English, which more and more now in Tennessee.
If you buy a property and the coils in the air conditioner are dirty, AHS won't cover the whole unit, and they don't disclose that. Overall, their contractors have been really good. The only thing is that if you call in on Friday, you're not gonna get anybody till Monday and then they usually don't come till Tuesday. Otherwise, everybody has been pretty quick and they come out right away.

In the beginning of August, the pump and motherboard of my washer went out. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out 101 Repair, Inc. They did the diagnosis then they came back with the pump. But the motherboard they brought out did not work, so they had to order another one. Two weeks later, they came out again but that motherboard still didn’t work. So time went on and they finally got another one that worked. But then, the lid wasn’t a tight fit so it stopped working. They came out again and diagnosed it. Then they brought out a part for an ice maker which wasn’t what was needed for my washing machine. Finally, two weeks ago, everything was complete.
But 101 Repair ought to have parts on hand and not make you wait. I had to spend a month going back and forth to the Laundromat because of that incident and I don’t think they should be a vendor for American Home Shield anymore. Other than that, the techs who came out were nice and friendly. They were helpful as well and it wasn’t their fault that things were not ordered or didn’t work. Also, I’ve always had good luck with the contractors that AHS sent out. It was just this last time that my experience was different. I bought this house 14 years ago and when I did, the people I bought it from had American Home Shield that went with the sale. When that first year was up, I've continued with it ever since. Their price has gone up when I started this. Their service call was like $50 and now it's up to $75. Also, the yearly rate has gone up. It was not quite $500 when I started and now, it’s like $600. But again, in the long run, it's worth it. Also, I've always submitted claims by phone and it has been very easy.
Several years ago, American Home Shield didn't have any program to do the maintenance for the air-conditioning and heating. It was like if somebody came in and did the maintenance and there was a problem with it, then I had to go through American Home Shield to get it fixed. That to me didn't make a whole lot of sense. They should have maintenance people who do a yearly maintenance and then, at the same time, if something has to be repaired, they can go ahead and repair it. Since the last time I talked to them about this, they were working on some kind of plan like that. I know that if you call them for a problem, say the commode's not working and you try to fix it yourself or make any changes or anything, if Home Shield sends out somebody to fix it and if they detect anything has been done to it, then it's not covered, which I can understand.
Most recently, my garbage disposal was broken and it caused a leak under my kitchen sink. The contractor was a company out of Charlotte which is three hours from where I am. They had some problems getting somebody up here. But I was extremely pleased with the plumber who came out and took care of the problem. He came out within a day or two and he said I was gonna have to have a new garbage disposal and it would have to be ordered which was no problem. That was on a Friday and he was supposed to be back the following Friday to install it. But the Friday that he was supposed to come back out, I didn't hear from anybody. So, the following Monday or Tuesday, I called the company and found out that he got sick and my order fell through the cracks.
Nothing was done with the order after he got sick. It's like somebody dropped the ball and didn't pick up what he had pending. I went almost another week having to wait for them to get back up here, which they did. And when they came back and put in the new garbage disposal, I was extremely pleased with the guy who came and took care of it. Also, the company apologized for not picking up on what the first plumber had pending. I'm gonna have to call for a plumber again and I'm gonna request the same company because the guy who came and did this work lives up here in Asheville. He would be the one taking care of everything around in this area. I'm gonna specifically ask for that same company. I've done that before and hopefully, they would send the same company.
Also, one time, I had a heating problem and they sent out somebody that I would not have back in my home. The guy who came in was very rude and very condescending. I didn't have let him do any work in my home and I called and reported that. But other than that and this last thing I had, I highly recommend AHS and I've never had a problem with not being able to get anybody out to take care of it. People understand the value of having some kind of protection for electrical or plumbing and my experience has always been very good. They get somebody out here in a reasonable period of time.

We moved into the house and assumed American Home Shield from the sellers. There was an issue with the AC unit and we had the sellers call American Home Shield to make sure the AC units were working properly and there weren’t any issues that needed any additional repairs. AHS had a company called Total Air Care based in Jacksonville come out.
It was middle of the summer and our house would not get under 78 degrees. We called American Home Shield about the issue. They sent Coastal Air Care and they said they couldn’t work on these units because there were locking caps on them and that I would need to call the original contractor. So I called American Home Shield again, but to stay in touch with American Home Shield over the phone took hours. I finally got in touch with somebody in the US and they had Total Air Care finally came out. The guy came out and he was okay. The system was not working properly and there seemed to be a blockage in the system. It needed four pounds of Freon and a new dryer. He inspected the downstairs unit and it seemed I think he knew what was going on.
Then, he pulled the breakers on the units and left us for two weeks without any AC whatsoever until they came out again to service the units. Their technician named Donald came out but he refused to get out of the vehicle because he said it was raining and he was three hours late to coming to our home. I told him we had been without AC forever and that he needed to come and return those things back on. He said it was misting out and that he couldn’t do anything. He said he would wait 30 minutes and then he would see what he could do.
He got out of the truck angrily and ripped one of our AC units almost off the stand completely such that like pulling on the dryer and then the cords. He said he would have to call my manager. I talked to his manager for a little bit and the manager said they were not gonna do any work to my unit until I pay. It was in and around $220 for four pounds of Freon. I said that they were just out and they said that the units were working fine. Their previous report said they took one pound of Freon out.
I didn’t feel like I should be responsible when it was misdiagnosed. He said I was receiving service. Donald got on the phone and he got in the car and drove off. So here we are still without AC. I wrote to ConsumerAffairs and the social media team from American Home Shield started to reach out to me. At that point, I felt like we were making some type of action. They got Total Air Care to come back out and clear the unit, clear the blockage, and put the four pounds in but it still didn’t work. I got a few months hold from Total Air Care trying to fix the problem because at that point, I had reported them as well.
I cancelled my contract with American Home Shield and I’ve been on the phone with them nonstop for the last couple of weeks. They told me to have a contractor come out and diagnose exactly what was wrong. So I searched the internet for the best contractor in the area and I found the one with the highest reviews, Licensed to Chill out of Baton Rouge. They came out while I was in the military training trip and they diagnosed the upstairs and downstairs units.
They said there were multiple Freon leaks and the condensers were pretty poor. I paid them $190 to diagnose the system and I submitted it to American Home Shield. Also, I called Total Air Care and they ended up giving me all the service reports for the last two years, all the times they’ve been out for those units which I thought was not very intelligent on their part. But now I have a clear track record of the misdiagnosis of the units. I moved into the house on the professional opinion of that company and here I am this week paying $13,000 to get two new AC units, which is kinda crazy. AHS said they would pay up to 7,000 which was good, but I was still putting a major bill. That was the first issue.
The second issue was two days after we moved in, the hot water wasn’t working in the master bathroom. The contractor came out and they said it was the cartridge. It was a Moen cartridge that goes in the shower which they had to order through AHS and they would be back in a couple of days to fix it. Not quite sure what happened, but a month later, we still weren’t able to use the shower. They didn’t come back out. I called American Home Shield and told them it was ridiculous. Apparently, they said the part was still on order.
I told AHS they need to send another plumber out, so they sent KNS Plumbing out. They took the shower stem apart and they said the cartridge may need replacement but it was also leaking into the wall and they need to replace the whole stem. So they went and replaced it. They said American Home Shield would replace the stem, but I would have to pay $175 for the copper work in and around the stem. So they fixed that. But things in and around the shower completely routed out and the tiles started to fall off the wall. It has been a nightmare with American Home Shield, so we decided to drop them so we could just hire our own contractors to come out and do the work properly.
But their social media coordinator has been great, although I had to write to ConsumerAffairs and Better Business Bureau for her to get back to me. I would either get their call center in Indonesia or get their call center in Alabama. If I get the Alabama one, sometimes they can do stuff, but that’s about it. AHS said to go out and buy a wall unit, which we did and they were like they would only refund me $150 for $190 and it would cost 300. But after the social media lady reached out to me, they sent me a check for 300 to cover. It cost 350 for the wall unit. The coordinator seemed confident in her e-mail that they would take the whole thing and then it was like I have to talk to another manager and it went on for two weeks.
Then finally, I said the last month that it was getting ridiculous. They asked for the quote of the company I had out and each individual part and what it costs. So they came down to this and they said they would replace the small AC unit upstairs and the air handler, but that they were only gonna replace the compressor on the downstairs one. I went to my guy and asked how much the compressor is. He said he was not gonna replace the compressor, but the whole unit. But that if he were to replace it, it would be at least $400 plus labor. AHS came back and said they got everything really cheap and it would only cost them $300. And that was they offered me. That's where we're at right now with them. But I haven't brought with them the shower issue yet. I don’t think we’re gonna get anything from them, so we’re just hiring our own contractors to come in and fix it. We won’t be renewing the warranty with them.
Good afternoon Mr. Byrne,

We had a leak on the outside of the house. It was on the ground, around the foundation of the house. But we did not know its origin so we called American Home Shield and the plumber showed up on a Friday. It was mid-morning and that time of arrival was within the acceptable window. This person dug a hole on the outside, two feet in diameter, but he couldn't find the leak. Then he went inside the house and asked permission to cut into the Sheetrock. It was reasonable and I said okay. He cut in six slices on the Sheetrock. This was in the front bedroom, and it went from the front to the side of the bedroom and all the way to the bathroom. Still, he couldn’t find the leak. He said he would be back on Monday and left the property. He left the six spots, which were about 8 x 12 inches, cut open. And he never even called that Monday.
That day, my nephew called the card that he left but the person at the office said that they didn’t have any record of the service call. On the following Thursday, almost 10 days later, the plumber called and said he would be by the next day to make the repairs. But at that point, I had gotten my problem fixed, after ending up going through three different plumbers. It was an outside leak and the company used some kind of a probe to find it. So the first plumber wasn't even close to finding the leak.
American Home Shield also called and asked us if that had been closed and we told them no. I told them the story but I didn’t hear another word from them. We have since sold that house but we had paid American Home Shield for three months in advance. We requested a refund and they said, "Yup. No problem. We'll send it to you." That was such a lie. We hadn't heard another word from them about that either.
We also had a plumber that went to my son’s in Keller, Texas and they were to find a leak. It was an upstairs bathroom leaking into the garage. They cut about a 3 x 5 hole in the ceiling then left it open, and the leak still continued. So we had to get another plumber to fix that leak. We've had four properties covered by American Home Shield for several years and we're dropping them completely. They are not worth the money that we paid for them.

I had a positive experience with American Home Shield and I was very satisfied. I went online and submitted a claim for the faucet that was leaking and it was easy navigating through AHS’ website. It was user-friendly. The only thing I don't like is when you first go on to initially log in. It makes you change your password every time because for some reason, it says the password is wrong although it's not. I submitted the claim on a Friday and Michael's Plumbing & Heating, the contractor was here Monday morning. It was pretty quick. The contractor discussed what was taking place. He was friendly and he took care of the problem. It's been great since then. Give AHS a try.

The thermostat for my air conditioner broke but when we replaced it, the whole thing went funky. The transformer up in the attic broke. So I had to have somebody come and fix my air conditioning. Submitting claims online is usually easier for me because I'm busy and for this claim, the response was quick. It was in the afternoon that I submitted that claim and American Home Shield sent me an email saying who they were contacting. Then The Lindi Corp called back the next day. They came out in a couple of days and were friendly. They got the job done quickly and they cleaned up after themselves. They didn't leave anything on the floor or any mess. They were great.

The only time I've had problems with AHS was with the refrigerator in our property in California. The water dispenser, it wasn’t working. At first, they went, and they opened the fridge, and they checked. They found nothing wrong. So they left, and they sent the bill. And I said, “No, no, no. You go back and then fix it or have someone to check it.” So they went back three more times. They didn’t have the part, then they came with the wrong person, then they didn’t have the time. They eventually got it fixed. It was a headache that they came four times to just fix up the sensor.
On the other hand, we recently had a good experience with them here in Arizona. One of my AC did not start up, and the monitor wasn’t starting up again. So I called AHS and the company called me the next day and they were really good. He was very nice and helpful and he dressed well. So despite our experience in California, I’d still recommend them.

Our AC wasn’t working and the motor had burnt out. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online but I called to make sure that everything was scheduled. The claim process was okay but I didn’t hear from the vendor until I called them. If I hadn’t called, I don't know when they would have shown up or if they would have shown up. Other than that, the guy who showed up knew what had happened, he identified the issue and it was a done deal. As a matter of fact, he had the motor in the truck, and he was able to swap out the motor and get me back up and running the same day.
Some of my previous contractors weren’t on the up and up. And so, for the other items that I had people come out for, I wound up paying them X amount of dollars for supposedly filing a plan review. I'm not looking at getting my money back but my previous contractors that were sent over said, "We have to charge you an extra $500 for filing a building plan," which was not true. I found out later on, but it was water under the bridge, and I just wanted to get stuff done. That happened a couple of times over a couple of years and I wasn’t quick enough to do the research beforehand. But now, having experienced that a couple of times, I know what to expect.

We had a couple different companies that American Home Shield sent us. One wasn't able to handle the type of refrigerator we had and AHS got us a different contractor that did a fine job. It’s a good experience to use American Home Shield especially if you’re trying to sell or buy a home. It’s good that AHS has reputable companies that were able to service us. One of them looked at one of our other products that I was having a question about and he did a little bit more than he had to. When we bought this home from the previous owner, I wasn’t given any instructions and I haven’t used the stoves before. It wasn’t turning at full heat and I said it wasn’t working properly. The guy tried to look at it and he figured it out before he left.

I have not had good experiences with American Home Shield. I’m a real estate agent and I prefer not to use them if at all possible. I would never recommend them either. As the property manager, we started a claim for the tenants for a dishwasher that was broken and people came out about four times for it. They said they were gonna order a part and then once they got the part in, they said something had to be done with a plumber. The plumber came out but then the ball was dropped on several different fronts. American Home Shield finally just replaced the dishwasher. The tenants have a brand-new dishwasher that’s working great now. But that claim took six months from start to finish.
The claims submission process is okay. You can go online and do it. But sometimes, it goes into the big abyss and you don’t get a call back. There's no follow through. I've had to call them because they’ve lost a claim and they don’t know where it’s gone. So it’s better to call so that you can get the name of the contractor that they’re assigning so that you can follow up with them if you don’t hear anything. But on days that I have to sit there for several hours, be on hold and get it figured out, it's not something I like to do. I even wait on the phone for a while sometimes to find out that it’s another department that has to help and be on hold a little bit longer.
I’ve had American Home Shield myself when we first moved into our house and we actually had somebody come to our house to repair our dishwasher. They said they needed to get a part and we had to give them additional money. They left and cashed the check but we never heard from them again. As a general rule, I’m very cautious about who American Home Shield sends out. I’ve asked before if I could request a specific contractor and was told no then I was told yes. So they don't seem to communicate internally. It doesn’t make for a pleasant experience for someone who's using the service.

I've always called American Home Shield when submitting claims as it was easier because I never seemed to have the account number on me. I've always liked the contractors they've sent out as well. Since it was an older one, they replaced the board for the door opener to work.
I've had no problems with American Home Shield. But, I had a funny experience with them. We've sold the house and I thought that I've already told them about that. We even paid for a copay for the person who bought the house and yet, they keep on taking money out of my account. It's all my fault, though, because I didn't call them back. I lost power in all the outlets in the master bedroom, master bathroom, and the laundry room. We normally have an air conditioner in the room. We have TV, and we couldn't really go into the bathroom and use any of the outlets because it was too dark. Then, in the washing room, we couldn’t operate our washer and dryer. I, then, submitted the claim through American Home Shield's website and it was pretty easy. I called on the weekend, and I got a text from the company. Then, I got a call that Monday morning and they came out that afternoon. My wife talked to the contractor, and they were professional. They have seen, diagnosed, and defined the problem quickly, and resolved the issue. Everything is now working great.
It is a good program and I would recommend it. If you have something going wrong, now, in this day and age, you have to pay a small co-pay, and then have them come out and diagnose it, which is more than what the co-pay is. So, it definitely comes in handy.

Updated on 11/10/2018: I AM STILL WAITING ON MY REIMBURSEMENT for my sump pump... And have documentation of being on hold for up to 29:29 minutes only to be made more false promises and lies. As of 11/05/2018 I have been waiting for a dedicated consumer complaints representative, Miriah ** to return a call. When you FINALLY reach someone... NOTHING! I do not understand how this company even stays in business!!!
Original Review: This company sucks! I have been trying for over 30 days to get reimbursed for the cost of a sump pump. I had to pay out of my pocket because AHS could not find a contractor to repair within the terms of my contract. My basement was already flooded and we're expecting 3 more inches of rain within the next 12 hours. By the grace of God I did have the cash on hand or my basement of my house would have been destroyed.
You can never speak to a customer service representative no matter which of the thousand numbers you call... And the chat capability has been completely removed from the website. When you do reach a customer service representative they will tell you anything and make promises to return calls which they have no intention in doing. I am currently in the process of identifying another home warranty insurance provider and would advise anyone that is currently covered by AHS or thinking about purchasing coverage to save the pain and headache by selecting a more customer service oriented organization!
Good morning Kathy,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience to have the sump pump repaired through your American Home Shield contract. Also, I would be glad to speak with you regarding the hold times that were experienced to speak with a customer service representative.

Sometimes though, I feel like AHS only does a quick patch on things when parts should have been totally replaced. When I had issues with the garbage disposal, their contractors just repaired it, then I started having more problems with it. It has been repaired about two times and I just didn’t wanna mess with it again, so if I was gonna have to pay a $75 charge, I might as well just replace it and since it was about 10 years old. I called American Home Shield to ask if can specify a different provider because it wasn't working out, but they said no because I’ve already started with that provider, so that was not a great experience. My refrigerator was cooling all the time as opposed to stopping once in a while and defrost the coils, clear the coils and blower them. So the coils would get frozen and there won't be any airflow through them. The refrigerator was not cooling and we lost a lot of food. I went online and requested service from AHS. A local tech called up the next day to schedule an appointment. He said the issue was the computer board and fixed it. We put the food back in after a day, but a week later, the coils had frozen up again. We had to throw the food away again. I wish American Home Shield would take it into account that when they fail to repair, there's a lot of expensive food being thrown away each time.
I had to call three times and the same tech came and did the repair three times. They replaced the computer board a second time and again a third time today. I'm thinking they threw away some expensive computer parts that may be fine. There's not a whole lot of other things that could be wrong though because the refrigerator, the compressor, the coils, and the fan, are blowing so it appears to be a computer problem.
There's a trade service fee of $75 that you pay once and if they had to come back to fix it, it's not your problem that they didn’t diagnose or fix the problem the first time. However, each time then contractor came back, AHS charged me $75 service fee. I shouldn’t be paying $75 each time and I had to call them to put an accounting dispute in. They took the charge off for the second and third time, but only after I called them. The system also automatically sends urgent emails and reminders that the charges are in default. I've been with American Home Shield for two decades and they usually come through for me though.

American Home Shield was really, really good in the past. I’ve had a few issues, and they’ve taken care of them. Submitting my latest claim also went smoothly and they sent out a technician who did a great job. It was just that I was trying to get AHS to understand the situation, and they really didn’t seem to. One of the igniters on my stove went off so I didn’t have a stove to use. From what they told me, they have to order the igniter, and then it would come to the house, and I had to make an appointment with them to get it put in. And because it was gonna be a few days before they would even get one, I took the other igniter out, and then I was gonna put it in the oven. But when I was putting it in the oven, I touched it and it broke. So I had to order another one and I paid for it separately.
Sometimes, it seems like they don’t wanna hear what I've got to say about things. It’s all about the contractors and what they have to do. It’s about the law and not about the situation. I had my freezer, and it’s still broken. I didn’t know at the time that I couldn’t touch anything and I took the parts out of the freezer, and I had thrown them away since they were no good because my icemaker was broke. AHS said they can’t fix it because I touched it. They sent a technician out to look at it but since there were no parts there when he came, he said he can't do anything about it. I told them that the freezer was a Kenmore and they can just order the parts but he said he can’t because he can't justify it. Also, AHS told me that because I touched it, it’s out of warranty.

I typically call American Home Shield when submitting claims and the only issue I have is that sometimes it takes a while to get to a representative. But otherwise, I've been quite pleased and happy with AHS. Most recently, the LG washing machine had water remaining in both the closed conditioner tray as well as the bleach area and it shouldn't have been. Service First came out and we wound up having to replace the controller that controls the water going to those various spots.
A couple of years ago, we had some AC issues that turned out to be something very almost stupid and simple that two guys flat overlooked. The third one finally said it was not grounded right and that solved the problem. American Home Shield, like everybody else in the business, is trying to get what they want done as cheaply as they can get it done, which says you don't always have a team working for you. But overall, I can't complain for the price tag I put into it. At this point, we're pretty much on a breakeven because so far, they've never replaced any appliance or AC system. It has been a matter of fix this and fix that as the issues occur.

Some people claimed that they emailed me, and I didn't get emails. But it all eventually got sorted out. The issue with the exhaust fans in two bathrooms, was resolved quickly, except those people didn't clean up the workspace when they were done. So I just had a bunch of dust all over my bathroom. They just slapped in new fans and left.
With another claim, which is the dishwasher, it took forever to get parts in. But that was a manufacturer problem. It wasn't the company that was sent from American Home Shield, because they were pretty easy to work with. They came out when they said they were gonna come out and the guy did all his tests and ordered the parts. I had to call Maytag and ask them why the part was still on backorder for several months and then magically, it was resolved in a week. So now, that's all working perfectly.

Recently, when a knowledgeable guy came to do the repair, he installed them and everything is working fine now. Though I'm happy now, I'm still disappointed because the sink problem took two years to get fixed. At one point, I had to take the pliers because that would be the fastest way to address the problem. It was ridiculous as I've been paying for something every month but I'm not getting the problem fixed.
Another incident that I was unhappy about was when I called AHS to have electrical work done. I gave AHS a description of everything that needed to be done but when the repair persons from the electrical company came in, they repaired everything but one plug in my kitchen on the countertop area. The tech told me it was working already but a few days later, when I plugged something in there, it was not. I called and the guys from the repair company came back. They told me it was under a different order and charged me $100. I called AHS and they asked if I paid the guys already. I responded by saying that I gave the electrical guys $100 but they're saying I owe them another $100. AHS told me they would look at my case and that they would try to give me back credit but I never did.

They let us know when they would dispatch someone and when they would be there. The contractors usually come out within a day of me calling it in. They came in and repaired it quickly. So far, I've been pleased with the service and I just recommended my mother. She was paying much more and getting much less coverage on her house with her warranty company so, we switched her over to AHS who had a better deal and coverage. I've been using them on my property for a year and it has been helpful.

I had a problem with my AC and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online. I have also spoken to the reps and they were easy to get along with and were good to work with. However, I wasn’t happy with the answers they were giving me, but I wasn’t happy more because my problem wasn’t getting corrected. The company they sent out here took five trips before they got it right.
The first time they came out, they found out the AC was low on refrigerant, put it in and then left. And that lasted for about a week. And then it started doing the same thing again. So they came out and they found that the capacitor was bad. I asked the guy why don’t they check the whole system out before they leave and he said they can’t do that. If they find the problem, they have to fix the problem and then leave. That’s all the contract with AHS allowed them to do. And because they never tested the system, I felt they could have resolved it there. But, eventually, they were fixing the symptoms and not the problem. They eventually found the true problem. There was a pipe that was clogged up, so they took care of that. And it’s always the same issues.
So then they came out again, and they found that the refrigerant was low again, so they decided that we got leaks. They did the leaks then and they found the evaporator coil was bad. They didn’t have the part on the truck, so they scheduled an appointment and came back and installed it. And then about three days after they installed it, I had the exact same symptoms again. So they had to come back and correct it then. And then that was the last time I have seen or heard of them because I haven't had any need for them to come back. Even so, American Home Shield as the company itself, dealing with me was pleasant. I got my money’s worth. It’s just their service contract with the contractors needs to be re-looked at. But I'm satisfied and happy with the support I got from American Home Shield.

We had a burst plug that was knocking out the other four plugs around it. The wire had grounded out. My wife submitted a claim on the internet and then, American Home Shield called. Working with their reps went fine. The electrician came in 30 minutes and found the problem and fixed it. He was great. He knew exactly what he was doing, how to do it, and what to do. If someone would ask about AHS, I'd tell them that as long as the homeowner that was selling the home was paying for it, always get it. Even my attorney who closed the house that we bought said AHS was the best. I knew that from the beginning, but they reiterated that. They said there’s not a better one out there.

I put in a service request for my stove to American Home Shield and I did it online. I have an older browser so it was a little slow and you gotta make sure that everything is going through but that was okay. AHS sent out their local appliance representative. He was good and knew what he was doing. He took one look at the unit, put his voltmeter on it and said that it was a common problem. He told me that he has to order a part and that would take a couple of weeks. He called me in a couple of weeks and told me that he had the part. He then came and fixed the unit. The stove is working fine now and I'm happy with it.

It was freaking hot and the air conditioning wasn't keeping up and cooling. I called American Home Shield and the tech came out. He said that it's the blower fan. He took it out and said he got one at the shop. It was a Thursday and he told me he would come back by Friday to install but he didn't. He eventually came out sometime in the late afternoon of Saturday and put on a new blower fan in. The AC seemed to work fine since and having it fixed was a big deal. I could sleep and it wasn't hot in the home anymore.
I usually put in a claim online and it's easy. I pick through the drop-down boxes whatever it is I want done and there's a little spot where I can describe in my own words what's going on. I put in my name and submit. Within 24 hours, I get an email with the company that I am assigned to. The contractors have been very competent, attentive and most of the time, their action is straightforward and they're in and out.

I like submitting claims to American Home Shield on the phone more than I like doing it online. I don’t feel like I can follow with the online stuff as well or as easily. If I'm talking to a person on the phone, I can get answered where I can't online. But other than that, the online is not too bad. Their co-pay seems to keep going up every month though, and I always liked it before so that’s a little bit of a disappointment to me. I understand that prices go up but they've always seemed to go up every year whether the prices have changed or are the same. And I don’t understand that.
On the other hand, the contractors that I've dealt with have been great. They get there as quick as they can and usually, it's fairly quickly. It's within a day or so, and I get my problem resolved, whatever it is. The AC stopped once and it was in the heat of the Texas weather. The AC just wouldn’t run so I called American Home Shield to have someone come out to look at it. When the repair guy came out, he looked at it, found a loose wire and fixed it. It's doing fine now.

The fan of the refrigerator stopped working. The freezer part was working, but the fan that blew over the condenser was not cooling the refrigerator itself. I was assigned D & D immediately, but they were not very responsive. It took a while for the contractor to finally come out. When he came, he said, "Tell me where the refrigerator is." I showed it to him and he immediately diagnosed it and that was a pretty quick diagnosis. He was there in less than five minutes. He told me he should have the part within the next couple days at most. But it seemed like I was tracking them down more than I should once the part finally came in and that was a little frustrating. It took over a week for them to actually get the part. But once he got it fixed, it was good. He was also friendly and he got the job done. AHS has great service, I'd recommend it.

I was happy with my electrical repair claim, but I had requests that American Home Shield didn’t cover. They patch things. They don't really fix them. Also, I found it very difficult to get through when I called in claims or followed up. I needed copies of invoices for work I did through this service, and they couldn’t email it. They had to mail it. The last 10 times I called, I was on hold for 30 minutes every time. I tried various times, and it was always a constant. The customer service isn’t very good either and I was disappointed with that. American Home Shield no longer does any preventative too. I sold the home, and one of the issues on the home inspection was to have the two units in the house checked out, serviced, and warrantied that they were in good repair.
I called American Home Shield and they don’t do that kind of service. I had another company come in, and they found a leak in the system, but American Home Shield didn't see it as a repair job. Plus, they charge for the refrigerant and the price is outrageous. They tripled the price of what it actually cost and I ended up paying hundreds of dollars for repairs, especially with the HVAC systems. If I had to do it again, I would never join them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I had a different home warranty company that I was very unhappy with, and American Home Shield came recommended by my sister. American Home Shield’s website has a ‘Request a Contractor’ button and they would send out a request after you fill out a small form that says what’s wrong or what device is bad. Then they send out the appropriate contractor and I get the phone number for that contractor. He’d call me, set up an appointment and then come out. I’ve had two services, the first for my exhaust fan which was a fiasco. The fan in my bathroom went bad and all of the paint in my bathroom peeled because it took them a month to finally get somebody to come out here. The recent claim was pretty simple and easy. I had a furnace go out and though it took the contractor a couple of days, the tech guy was thorough and efficient. He came in, took care of it right away and fixed it. So, it was much easier to deal with.
Hello, Alan. I regret to hear that your exhaust fan service request was not handled as quickly as it should have been. However, I thank you for the overall positive feedback. Have a happy holiday season!

I called for my air conditioning unit and the tech told me that American Home Shield doesn’t cover normal wear on the insulation. He told me that if I take the insulation off and find some pipes separated or rusted badly and causing leaks, I would need a replacement. So I took the insulation off so I could put in a new one and I found some bad rust spots where my pipe had come off. I then called American Home Shield so they could send someone out. Another heating and air guy came out and I told him that there was a squirrel that was living at one time, before I bought the house, in the ductwork and that it looked like maybe it might have torn up some of the insulation but I couldn’t say for sure if that was what it was. I just saw a bunch of acorns on top of it. He wrote that in as a report saying that it was pest damage and AHS won’t cover it.
My ductwork started to rust really badly and I got my floor torn out due to the ductwork sweating so badly. It has created my floor to swell and then it got mold and fungus. Now, I got my whole living room ripped out where I can see the crawlspace and I didn't have a living room for two weeks. I still got other issues but I know that AHS won’t pay for it. I had previous termite damage before I bought the house about 20 years ago and now that I got this floor ripped out, I can see much better what part of my foundation was rotted and I’m concerned that that side of the house is gonna fall down. I’m trying to take care of that but I know AHS won’t take care of it because of pests. AHS is worthless and I’m not gonna buy it. It’s a smooth and easy process doing it over the phone, it’s just that sometimes I don’t feel like waiting so I do it online instead. Their site could be a bit better, like the tabs and finding the information that the customers need. The first time, it took me a little while of exploring the site around but things got good once I understood it.
Each time that I’ve requested a service, I’ve had knowledgeable people. Each time that the contractors would come out, everything’s been resolved in that visit so the quality of the providers that they sent out had been good service. The only drawback that I had was how the service fees go. If I’m calling about an issue, they’re making multiple service calls and that kinda caught me off guard. The last company that I used, if I called, they would set everything else up. But American Home Shield's response time was quick as far as the turnaround from putting a claim to having them get somebody out to our home. My refrigerator water line that runs from the bottom into the freezer door broke and when we use the filtered water dispenser, water gushes out! I called AHS and contractors came in to check it out and did not say much or have any question – just took notes and left. In a few days, AHS left me a message indicating that they denied it claiming that “It is not a normal wear and tear”! As if to indicate that I have purposely cut the water line for some mysterious reasons. I then called AHS and they stated that I am entitled for a second assessment from a different contractor – however, they indicated that if the second opinion comes in with the same diagnoses, I’ll be on a hook to pay $100.0 (part of the contract – so now I’ve paid $200 total with nothing to show off!)
I was confident that the second opinion will come through for me since there is no much to check but to note that the water line just broke; so, I agreed. A new contractor check came to check and left without much question and said that he will check with his manager. I called after few days to get the status and I am horrified to know that the second contractor denied my claim citing different reasons altogether!
In fact, when I called AHS to dispute this, they told me that the second contractor verbally told them that it is not a normal wear and tear (VERBALLY), while I have an image of the second contractor that mention nothing about wear and tear but rather that a malfunction happened due to a missing component!!! AHS is nothing like they say at their site!!! I’m very dissatisfied and unhappy with this service and every time I call to I get to wait hours for the call back to only give me yet another phone number to call! If this does not get resolved to my satisfaction, I will cancel or never renew as I know of much more reputable home warranty and cheaper service out there!

The customer service representative then decided to argue with me on how they "couldn't" transfer me to a supervisor and how they already handled the problem. Even though they couldn't answer my question.
After not accepting their response I again asked to speak to a supervisor and then got hung up on. Had this happened only once I would say this is a single person problem with the company, but it happened 3 more times. The worst part is each time you have to wait 30-45 mins to talk to someone and then the next representative doesn't want to take action or report the previous representative, or transfer you to a supervisor. He opened up the wall and there was wood there but it wasn’t wet so there was no way there was a leak there. I thought they would be more thorough though. A lot of people just don't want to work right now. You call them out to do something but they don't do their jobs.
The warranty was worth the cost in the past. But I know it’s not American Home Shield this time. It's the contractors. But American Home Shield has to choose the correct contractor. Why do they not even choose contractors in my area? Then they would say that the contractor can’t get to me because they only work by zip code. That happens instead of you just having someone in your area who may be able to service you more efficiently. I know some companies may have people in the area while the company itself may be further away. But they’ve said that the contractor was coming from Dayton or Columbus. And I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio. Some of my friends use American Home Shield and they recommended it. I've been with them for a few years now and I'm pleased with them. But when I called later in the evening, I held for a long time. At that time, I thought they must not be open but someone recently mentioned that they're open 24 hours. So if it’s evening, I go on the computer to file a claim. But one time, I wanted to add something that was similar and it would have been the same service guy but the computer couldn't do it. The system was making it like a new request and I didn't wanna have that where I was responsible for two different service calls. I wanted to make sure they were together. So I ended up making a phone call to make sure it was done correctly.

When the first technician came out to fix the air condition at home, they just patched it up and left. I called AHS back again. I told them not to send back the same technician because he did not check the leak for the unit. They sent another one and he checked for leaks. He found the leak at the coil for the air condition and he changed the part. After he changed it, the others went into the attic to look for leaks, too. However, while they were in the attic, it seemed like they turned off a switch, so I called them out again because I had my air condition and heater off for about two weeks and my air condition was not working.
They sent out the tech and he diagnosed the unit. He saw where the problem was and it was the switch for the heater in the attic. American Home Shield said that the switch only controls the heater, but the switch is what controls the air condition, and when the tech turned the switch on, the air condition started to work again. Then, AHS charged me an extra $75 because they had to do something with that switch which worked both items, which they were saying doesn’t work both items because that was what the technician said.
I told them it was not fair because I called them to come out for my air condition again, which neither the air conditioner nor the heater was working. It just took the switch to be switched, which they probably turned off, and they charged me an extra $75. That gave me some discontent. I’ve been with AHS for over 30 years and I also changed from one home that I had American Home Shield with besides the one that I have. I didn’t wanna get into any discussion with them, not that I cannot afford it, but it was not fair.
Something like this had happened in the past, but that ceased from happening. They would come out for something and then they said it was not under the coverage. Then, they would send somebody else out from another technician, then they will fix it. Also, when I call AHS, sometimes it takes a long time to answer and I spend an hour while waiting for them. That is very disappointing because if you are paying for something and you call them, someone should at least get to you in at least 10 minutes, not an hour or an hour and a half.
I have recommended AHS to all my family members. They are now members of it, but my sister had to get out of it because they used to tell her that they don’t cover this and they don’t cover that. She got disappointed and got out of it, but my brothers and some of my friends have it. I’m satisfied with AHS overall, although instances like this tick me off because they are charging me an extra $75 for nothing. On top of that, I told them to send me the tech because the technician did not leave me a statement of what they did when they came out. I told them I would like to see the statement from the technician, but the rep was saying that the heater didn’t have anything to do with the air condition, although the blower and the air condition and the blower for the heater work together.
They said they were gonna send the statement, but they haven’t even sent it yet. I told them to email it to me because I was gonna take the technician or the company to Consumers Affairs or the Better Business Bureau. He told me one thing when he was here, knowing that it was the air condition and heater not working, but when he contacted, when he wrote up his statement and sent it to American Home Shield, he said that the heater switch was only turned off.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield has been super easy, especially their online process. You don’t have to call and wait and have a contact number. I recently made a claim for our air conditioner for our upstairs that wasn’t cooling. The contractor that AHS sent has been very nice and he's been to our home twice before. He is very professional, explains what the issue is, how they're gonna fix it before they fix it, talks to us if there's gonna be an additional cost or not, and then fixes the issue. We've never had to have him come back out and re-repair something.

All my experiences with American Home Shield have been very good. I file my claims over the phone and the contractors they send show up close to the time that they tell me they would, which is very nice. They are knowledgeable and when I meet them by myself sometimes, I don't ever feel concerned.

AHS has an automated phone system that takes the information about your problem or sometimes, the rep takes the information. They then send me a text with the number of the company that is gonna come over and do the job. But when I go online to submit a claim, I don’t get any response that they have received the message itself and thanking me for letting them know the problem.
The contractors take more than the time that AHS gives them before they respond, especially when I need it really bad. Also, some of the companies that they got here in Texas aren't clean. But sometimes, I'm happy with what they're doing. It all depends on the person that’s coming. If an older guy comes, I don’t have any problems with him. But when some of the young kids come in and do their work, they are in a hurry and they’ll have their cellphone with them and start talking to somebody else. But other than that, I like American Home Shield and I’ve got my sister-in-law and my kids to take them. It’s fast and it saves you money in the long run.

We had a leaky seal on the toilet bowl’s water container at the back of our toilet. We submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield. The contractor they sent put booties when they came, looked inside and checked what it was, went back out, came back with a seal, fixed it, and they were done in 30 minutes. It was faster than I could’ve hoped. I thought it was gonna be hours. They were just outstanding young men and I haven’t had any problems with that toilet since the repair.

We woke up with our air not working and so I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield. A technician came out in a timely manner and fixed the AC. He was friendly and polite. He was also fast and efficient in his work. He had the part available so I didn't have to wait.

I was happy with everything the first time I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. That claim was for a garbage disposal that was leaking. I called and got hold of people. AHS got Elite Renovations out here pretty quick and did a good service. They could come out the next day, but I wasn’t gonna be home, so they got here within three days. The contractor replaced the old one for a new garbage disposal and everything is fine.

American Home Shield sent out a plumber for my walk-in tub drain and all he did was unclog the drain and then I continued to have the same problem. Then, I got Drano myself and did the same thing that plumber did. Also, I called AHS and they sent out the wrong kind of person. They sent a tub technician and when the technician came, he said he was not the person for the job. There was nothing wrong with the tub. It was a plumbing problem and a plumber had to come out. So that didn’t work out, but he asked for a plumber. AHS then rescheduled another plumber. I called them in advance and told them that I wanted to cancel it because I felt like they would just gonna unclog the drain again and that was gonna be a temporary fix.
Also, I noticed at least two times that there was water on the floor when I looked down in the basement. Then, when the plumber came today, he had to go into the walls at my house because he said there was a serious problem with the tub. He said the water I found in the basement floor was coming from the same tub drain. There was a serious leak and it would have continued to build up. I feel like the plumbers that AHS sent out were good in handling minor things but they weren't able to help me with the real problem with the tub. The plumbers came out and they just put a Band-Aid on the situation and they didn’t do a good assessment. In two minutes, they’re gone and then the next thing I know, the problem hasn’t been fixed. The plumbers need to do better and take the time to do a better assessment. They always seemed rushed. In that regard, I wasn't satisfied with them. It doesn't cost a lot of money but I needed to have it done right.
I’m not satisfied with AHS' customer service through all of this either and when I call, it takes practically a whole day to get somebody. A lot of times, my experience was when I got somebody and after talking about two minutes, they would say they got to put me on hold and look in and get the information. And then within maybe five minutes of holding on, the line would drop and I would have to keep starting over. Also, it would be nice to get somebody even if they wouldn’t answer and put you on hold like, "I’ll be with you in a few minutes or something," as opposed to get a recording and end up being on that for as long as half an hour and then still not get anybody. It has been a nightmare for me.

I had American Home Shield for a long time, but the quality of the contractors that they outsource has declined significantly over the years. They were sending out contractors that weren't capable of performing the work. The people at AHS answer when I call. But whatever system AHS uses to contact the contractor on their end and for that contractor to subsequently contact us, that line of communication is broken. One time, we had an air conditioner that was blowing but it was not cool. We then called it in with AHS to get service, however, the whole experience was terrible. It was 90 degrees outside and we were waiting for someone to call. I called one of the gentlemen that AHS had contracted the AC out to and he cussed me out in front of my house.
AHS had somebody come out from the same company three to four times for the same issue. I had to request them not to send that company back out because they weren't solving the problem. AHS made me pay for a new claim each time, so I ended up putting out quite a few days of funding. They ended up refunding some of the money back, but I still had to put the money up front to get them to open a new claim. We finally found someone they sent that was able to do the repair, so I am happy about that, but it took two weeks. Everything’s fine now. So hopefully, it stays that way.
Hello, Leah. I do hope you receive my most recent email. It was great speaking with you today.

I had an air conditioner problem and American Home Shield has solved the problem. Through their contractor, Air Supply Cooling, we got a new air conditioner within 10 days but we had to call AHS and have them send out a service person again because the brand-new air conditioner quit working. Apparently, AHS no longer uses Air Supply because they've had other issues with them. We live about 65 miles outside of a major city, so it's not the easiest thing for AHS to find people. But another contractor, A1 Mitchell, was able to come out for the second maintenance call the very next day and my husband seemed to like them. Overall, we're very satisfied with American Home Shield. We've had it for many years with different houses and it is well worth it. I'm happy with them.
