I went to go use the ice maker water dispenser and it wasn’t working so, I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. It was easy but I wish there was a way where instead of just saying refrigerator ice maker, they could get a more detailed explanation of the problem. The contractor they sent out showed up on time and was very friendly. He seemed like he knew what he was doing and explained to me what he was doing, why he was working on it, and gave me advice on how to take care of things in the future. He was very thorough. He replaced some parts in it and the water worked.

The ice maker didn't work immediately afterward which I didn't think much of because that takes a couple of hours to get through. But the next day, it still wasn't working so the contractor came back, adjusted the temperature, and everything is fine. I was skeptical about using the home warranty at first based on the reviews online but it all worked out great. I would recommend AHS and I would tell others that if they’re basing off of the reviews online, the ones that complain writes of them but the ones that are happy usually don’t.

We had some stoppages in the drains and the contractor AHS sent was very informative. He was the type that didn't come in and immediately say that we needed to replace something. He tried a lot of repairs versus replacing everything. AHS was a good deal. Having it is very valuable. Plus, their website is user-friendly.

I have three homes that I have American Home Shield with. When I file my claims, I call or do it online depending on what is more expeditious for the time that I need to do it. However, I’ve had problems with the website so sometimes, I call. I prefer to pay afterwards just to make sure that the service was done and the service was well-done and I have put that on the web system. However, it would sometimes take the $75 service fee from whatever card I have on file.

The technicians that AHS sent were very professional and the last call was for an electrician for my home here in Tucson. He was very good but he didn’t realize that the electrical unit in the bathroom had a LED night light. So, he had to come back and replace it because I’m a senior and I need lights in the bathroom. I need to have him come back because I noticed that there was another issue that I want them to clarify for me and I need to get that resolved so hopefully, I can do that after today’s party.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for many years. I pay over $90 a month to have this service. On Sunday 11/4/18 my washing machine broke. I called and was told a service provider would contact me within 24 hours to schedule an appt. I'm a teacher and work from 8-3 so I needed scheduling. The contractor did not call me, however I reached out to him on Monday after work and he came to my home to check my washing machine. He said he thought it needed a part and he would put in for a request to get the part and would call me back on Tuesday, (which he never did).

On Wednesday morning I called the contractor to see if the part was ordered and he said he could not get the part, but he put in a request from American Home Shield to get the part & suggested I call AHS to see the status. At around 9:10 AM Wed. 11/7 I spoke to a woman named Kim who said she would check on the status of the part and call me back within an hour, (which she never did). I called back at 10:30am and spoke to a woman named Katelyn who said she would put a call into the company that orders the parts and get back to me by 5pm, (which she never did). I called at 5pm and spoke to a woman named Jessica ** who I again explained the whole situation to and was told she would check and saw the part was never ordered and how busy the company is and how she understands how frustrating this is but I need to be patient because there is a procedure that needs to be followed. WOW!

After being put on hold numerous times throughout the day and getting nowhere I am going to cancel my contract with this company. They are terrible to work with and when I asked for a supervisor, I was told they had to call me back and would get a callback within 24-48 hours. I called back and spoke to Debra who was very helpful and explained that it shouldn't take more than 10-12 days to see if the part was available. SEE IF IT'S AVAILABLE, not get it! I obviously was very put off by this and would not recommend AHS and once this issue is resolved and a supervisor calls me back, I will determine if I will continue with this company.

My heating unit went out Friday October 26th. I filed a claim early that morning. The service people got there 3 or 4 hours later. This was the only good thing that has happened. They determined it was the heat exchanger that was bad, so usually they will change out the whole unit but not with AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. The service people got all the part #'s and sent it to AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. That was ok. Then I found out AMERICAN HOME SHIELD did the ordering on Monday Oct. 29th. The service people called me and said it would be 7 to 10 business days or more to get the part in. Well that cost $75 for the service call which was ok.

Then I get a call today 11/7/18 from the service people and wanted to know if AMERICAN HOME SHIELD contacted me about $195 removal and installation fee and that I needed to pay that to them before they will fix my unit. I'm not sure what AMERICAN HOME SHIELD does. I guess they are the go between the service people and the public. I could have done this without AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. The service people also told me that I will never get a new unit, that AMERICAN HOME SHIELD will keep replacing parts no matter how much it cost. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay the $600 dollars for the AMERICAN HOME SHIELD fee, it came with my house purchase. And I would never purchase this for myself!!!! I believe it is a racket.

Updated on 11/16/2018: I've escalated my case and they sent me another company in my house for the second opinion. The guy came to my house and he said he got the authorization from the AHS to run the leak detection and find the leaking location. After 10 days since I've had the second opinion, the plumbing company called me and they had no idea about they were supposed to do the leak detection so I followed up with AHS again and the customer service mentioned the company have to send another person to look to the inspection again (looks like they were not satisfied by the previous tech's answer to pay money and just trying to find the issue so they don't cover it). So the third guy came up the day after and said this is post tension foundation and not covered. Do not get coverage from AHS or you are wasting your time and money and they always find a way to not cover what they say they cover. I'm going to cancel my coverage.

Don't go for this company contract because it's useless. I had the request for SLAB Leaking. Their technician came look at it and then after 10 days of calling them to get any response they said it's not covered. SECTION E Number 4 on my contract it's not covered because it's post tension slab leaking (which is not in my contract). When they want to sell their service they tell you they would fix plumping and leaking but they are not. I've already paid $100 for the service request. I'm going to cancel my contract and never back to this company again.

After he left I had to glue the touch pad to the housing as it was not covered in the warranty "as long as it worked" was explained to me. OK microwave quit working again this year but if it is longer than 60 days they will not fix it again. It should have been replaced the first time and I would not be writing this review.

The problem I am having with this company is the same as the company I recently dropped which was HMS. AHS is stating that to replace my water heater it will cost me $625 out of pocket because policy does not cover parts/items needed to meet building code. I currently have an 80-gal tank and was told by the plumber that 80-gal no longer meets residential energy requirements, and he can replace with a 50-gal tank and a water heater booster, to provide about 75 gal of hot water. I agreed; having no choice. I then received a call from AHS to inform me the additional parts will be $625 out of pocket. I informed them under NO circumstances will I pay for this. Day 6 with no hot water.

Even after making sure that what just broke is covered in the extensive PDF list (which by the way feels like a well thought out legal document to exclude as much as possible form coverage) and then submitting a ticket, I find that most techs that show up find something else that could have possibly cause the issue and hence it is not covered because it's not normal wear and tear. I had a pipe leaking under a shower pan, and the tech justified the leak by stating that there was movement from the initial install (which happened 15 years ago) and due to that it is leaking and hence not covered.

Yesterday my Polaris booster pump stopped working. Again the tech showed up, and by looking at it told me it was caused by a dry run and that is not covered by normal wear and tear. How are we as customers suppose to be satisfied with this level of service? I didn't get this AHS insurance to have to research some of this equipment to figure out just how much BS I am getting. What kind of kickbacks are these techs getting to diagnose non working equipment by just looking at it and not taking things apart.

I guess as long as I keep paying the monthly fee and they get their $75 to show up everyone is happy but me. This feels like a total scam, and I have now had to fix these things on my own after paying AHS and the service techs. Someone needs to look into these kickbacks to the businesses AHS decides to work with. I am not happy at all and have been cheated out of an insurance policy that is suppose to fix these basic issues. I am better off keeping my $95 a month and pay myself $75 every time something breaks.

I have been with American Home Shield for the past 10+ yrs and by far this has been their worst. For 1 1/2 months, service call went out 16 SEP, (first service repair response 18 SEP 2018), we have been working with American Home Shield to get our refrigerator (GE Monogram) repaired/replaced. The fridge is 14yrs old and for the past 7+ yrs have had it repaired using AHS at a minimum 2x per year. At what point do they replace the refrigerator? This time has been the worst. With each repair we lose over $350.00 worth of groceries, we have lost groceries a couple of times during one repair billing several times. As you well know, ordering out and even daily shopping for groceries to consume each day and night is very time consuming and very expensive. And this has presented a logistical nightmare.

The service company came out 20 SEP 18, initiated a quick fix and needed to return for after ordering parts. Returned 25 SEP to install ordered part, refrigerator worked all of 1 week. 01 OCT called repair company, called returned 02 OCT to discuss repair date. Called American Home Shield report refrigerator still not working, called repair company (they say part on order). 06 OCT repair company return damper not working, needs another part, will return 09 OCT. Return 09 OCT with part, refridge should chill, give several hours, didn't work temporary fix; still not working. Repair company return 09 OCT damper not closing, new part on order. 16 OCT called AHS, they called repair company confirmed. 20 OCT repair company called back to setup repair for 5 OCT. Repair company call back parts came in but missing sealant, reschedule for 28 OCT. 28 OCT repair company returns to install parts, says will take several hours to chill, "NOT"!

01 NOV called AHS to complain, still w/o refridge, not working WTH? They call repair company. Reply "they told you when they left that your refridge won’t work, will need yet another part". "They will submit repair authorization today, it will take 24-48 hrs for approval through AHS claims". "After approval the repair company will order part and schedule to come out and repair". Bottom line my damn refrigerator is still not working. Expensive, all the way around for me. Out extra money for gas, time spent daily shopping for groceries, ordering carry out, paying for a useless service contract. I could have bought a new refrigerator for all the headache and frustration this AHS contract has caused. This is why they don't deserve the one star.

One time, I submitted a claim online to AHS for my water heater. Because I set up my credit card information online, I don't have to worry about writing them a check. The first guy who came in started working on it. He told me he was the owner of the business but because they were running late, he came himself to get the work started. They had to order a water heater because mine was completely gone and get authorization from AHS for that replacement. They also had to find out what's my cost for the replacement because with the new water heater, they had to change a few things with the piping and the gas line.

Thereafter, another guy came and things were fixed within a week. During that time, my kids were miserable because there wasn't any hot water in the shower and I had to warm up the water in buckets. Still, there haven't been any issues since the repair. AHS has been responsive overall. I like their automated system because my son would generate the work order, and then AHS would send it to whoever they contact or agent they have set up. It's very quick and I get a message on my phone that I would be contacted within the next 24 hours.

Submitting online is not necessarily very good because there's not enough criteria to necessarily cover everything. Still, I was able to file my claim for my clothes washer that quit working, which is good. It was also taken of very quickly and I'm very pleased. The contractor who came diagnosed the situation and ordered the parts then he was back as soon as the parts showed up. He fixed it in 10 or 15 minutes and he was excellent. I was having issues with my dishwasher as well and he took some things out and showed me what I needed to do so it can work properly. I also had asked about the tray inserts where I put the dishes in because they are a little rusted. He said that those weren't covered and I was a little surprised on that. We filed a claim online to American Home Shield for our refrigerator. Their site was very user-friendly but then I was a little disappointed initially with the contractor who came to our home. He came, looked at the problem, told me that he had to order some stuff and left. Then, it took another couple of weeks to get the parts in. I had to purchase a second refrigerator in that timeframe. I felt like that was something they could have handled differently.

Though the tech fixed the refrigerator, it only worked for a couple of days, then went out again. Initially, the tech had said that the problem was due to frost as the refrigerator wasn't defrosting itself. He replaced the board, defrosted the fridge, and it started to work. But then, because the fan was frozen and was working so hard to try to circulate air, it ended up burning out too. So, I had to file a second claim and since the second repair, the refrigerator has been working well.

AHS's service and everything else was great. However, I was dissatisfied when they said that if they couldn't repair my refrigerator, they were going to replace it yet they weren't willing to replace what we had. They would replace it with whatever was available. We had a very expensive refrigerator so I told them that if they weren't gonna give us the same one, they should at least give us the same amount of money that we paid for the fridge we had or enough to get something similar.

I went online and submitted a claim for the dishwasher that wouldn't work. Navigating the website was pretty easy. I sent it on a Friday evening, and they called me the following business day. I think it was a Monday or Tuesday. So they're pretty quick in responding. My husband was there when the contractor came and he had no complaints at all. The dishwasher worked fine now. I'd tell other people to go online and get AHS' services. I've had their services for a couple of years now, so I've been paying the monthly charge. Had I not had the membership, then I would’ve had to pay it all away. It pays off to have them.

American Home Shield offered us a special rate for having the furnace checked. We accepted the offer to make sure everything was running right. On the website, I was told that I was gonna get a call soon. The next day, I got a call from the people that were gonna do the job. They asked me if they were able to come the next day. And on the scheduled window that they had given me, they called me earlier in the morning, saying that they had some free time to come even earlier. I said yes because I was home so everything went fine. They seemed to know what they were doing and fortunately, everything was running properly. They also cleaned the system on the inside and dusted the heat exchanger. I’ve been very happy overall with AHS. We’ve had a few things going wrong in the house and we’ve been able to get them fixed. Everybody that has come has been very professional about it, so we have had a very good experience.

I had called American Home Shield for the faucet. But I usually use either my laptop or the automated service to request a service. AHS' website is excellent. It saves time, everything's accurate and everything that was needed is listed over there. AHS called the spa people but they took too long to come. I fiddled with the faucet and it stopped dripping. The company never answered the phone. I already left messages for them to cancel the appointment because I didn't need them anymore. But they charged me still. I have been very busy and I didn't get the chance to talk to AHS and complain about the company.

And also, when I called for my refrigerator, they took a lot of time. They also had to order parts. I had to call back to ask them when are the parts coming and when are they coming back. I had to present to be on top of things. They know this wasn't my major fridge. And then, being without a fridge for 10 days is a lot to take. But when I called for my dishwasher repair, the techs came out right away the next day. The interactions with the techs were good. They knew what they were doing. After the repairs, everything has been wonderful and nothing went wrong. Having AHS gives me peace of mind that things get done, but it all depends on which vendor they're using. Some vendors are excellent and some are just not worth it. I'd tell others to go ahead and use American Home Shield but just be on top of things because they charge even if the techs don't come because they have our credit card on their site.

American Home Shield sent out someone to repair the dishwasher. The person came out and I'd never heard back from the person. I called AHS to find out the status and when the dishwasher was going to be fixed. They then told me that the claim was denied because their people said it was not installed correctly. That is not true 'cause the dishwasher was working perfectly fine for three years until it became damaged. There was a leak and it stopped working. I didn't know what I had because no one ever notified me of the denial. And no one was held responsible for who was gonna contact the customer to give the result. I have to reach out myself to find that out.

Now, AHS is saying that they can send somebody else out, but I have to pay another $100 service fee. That’s $200 altogether. With $200, I can buy a new dishwasher. I've recommended AHS to everybody and now, I'm one of those disappointed customers. They’re not even concerned about trying to help me for customer satisfaction. Instead of ending services with them, I would like for them to send somebody else for my dishwasher and waive the service fee or to use the service fee that I already paid for because now, I still have a dishwasher that doesn't work. And I've been paying my premium with AHS for well over a year.

One time, I submitted a claim for my AC over the phone and I had to go through several reps. But with persistence, I finally got things taken care of. The whole process could have been a bit smoother but that was not a problem with the company as a whole. It was on some of their representatives.

The person from the company that American Home Shield recommended to provide service in my area was very nasty. I ended up calling American Home Shield to tell them that I could not work with that person and I told them how rude the woman was. That was when they told me that they didn’t have anybody else and that I could go out and find another repair company. I found Modern Air and their techs were fantastic. They came out and found that my AC unit had to be replaced. They agreed to do it and American Home Shield paid them.

Submitting claims and scheduling an appointment with American Home Shield were easy. Any time I've submitted requests, like for my pool, it has been taken care of very promptly and professionally. AHS uses Sears as one of their vendors and I always get them. They are extremely nice, but they never fix the issue on the first time they come out. My refrigerator has been out for over a month and a half right now, and Sears has been out here four times and they have a fifth time planned. In fact, every time AHS has sent Sears out here, it takes six to seven times before they ever fix the issue. I'm not happy about that. I finally had to yell at Sears and said the refrigerator has to be fixed by Thanksgiving. When they come back, it would be two months. I plan to submit claims for my refrigerator by phone and make sure AHS doesn't send Sears out. They have sent someone else a couple of times that took care of the issue the first time.

He took off the back part, and he said that he couldn't fix it. The refrigerator had some burnt wires.

We were told who to call, and the people that we called wanted the model of the refrigerator including the length and the width so that the new one would fit right in the place where the other one that went bad was. The replacement took two weeks and the contractor that delivered the refrigerator was very helpful. We had to mostly eat out because we couldn't put anything in the refrigerator so we would just go to carry-out and try to make ends meet. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the gas furnace in Munster, Indiana and I called because to me, that's a hot emergency. The contractor came yesterday to find out what the problem was and it was a gas valve. He's going back there today and I'm waiting for him to call, and he hasn’t been there yet. There's a cold weather outside plus it's a furnace. AHS needs to seriously start thinking about doing something drastically with their program, especially now that it's getting cold up in the Chicago land. AHS should be able to repair or do something within 24 to 48 hours especially with heat when it's cold out. They need to get more companies involved. They're doing the best they can, and that's not good on AHS's part that they're taking that long to get service. I'm sure there are people out there who would gladly join with them to do repairs.

To wait this long, it cost me to go out and get a heater to keep the house warm, and luckily we're in a condo that's sandwiched between two units. AHS should be watching the weather and when it's gonna go below freezing Thursday here in Chicago, they need to start saying, "Whoa, we got furnaces calls in. We better get them. Do we need to worry about anything else?" Things like that. AHS has to put the priorities intact. I'm glad that we were in 50-degree weather, but this could have been 25-degree weather, then it changes the whole perspective of repairs. We also had a hot water tank last January that they had to change out and asked within five days. Still, that was too long. I'm satisfied with my overall experience, and I would have felt more positive about it if they would have had a serviceman there within 24 hours.

So when the contractor came and they went through how they were gonna repair it and I asked them what the cost was for something, their prices were either less or the same with what I would have paid going to retail. So it was more convenient. The prices were fair, and the work was done well. Also, the people I spoke to were very experienced. I asked them lots of questions, and they had good answers. I could not get the garage door to come down completely and stay down. I made a request to American Home Shield online and it was pretty easy to request the service. They charged the service fee online automatically and then the repairman called me that evening. It was after hours and they told me they would be by the next morning and they were. The tech was pretty efficient. He fixed it and he made some other adjustments while he was there. It was a good service. I would’ve used that company again.

I have three separate American Home Shield contracts. We have two homes with which we split our time between and I have a rental property. I have always been satisfied with the service that I get from them. One of the things that I pay for and get is the usually very timely response from their designated professional. It’s usually within 24 hours and then the set fee for the service call. They take care of it and if there’s anything to be negotiated or discussed with American Home Shield where AHS requires approval to repair or replace something, they’re the ones handling that on your behalf. It’s pretty beneficial for the consumer.

One time, our garage door wouldn't open so I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor I got was fantastic. Not only did he get back on track, but he also fixed an alignment issue with the laser eye and greased the garage doors. I also had somebody out recently for plumbing. He was very good and he explained that the issue he addressed would not recreate itself fully. He also said that if something else came up within the next 60 days, the job would still be under warranty and that I should call him back.

However, the past summer, I also had a group that fixed an air-conditioner at my rental house and they dragged their heels. They took forever to get the work done. Even so, I needed them again for my heater and they were there the next day. Perhaps it was just the busy time of the season but then it took two weeks and I had loud renters. American Home Shield has been good to us. However, the latest job we had done was a real pain, as far as what AHS wanted to cover and what their air conditioning service people did. It was a harrowing experience. The AC stopped working and I quickly put in a work order, but the contractor never called me. AHS told me it would be within 24 hours and I waited 48 hours, then I called the contractor looking for an appointment. Then it took them an extra two days just to come to look at the initial problem, which they determined was a compressor.

American Home Shield called me and said that the compressor was in and that they would notify the contractor that it was in. The contractor didn’t call me Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I had to call them on Monday and say that the part was in. The contractor said that my air conditioner was out of code and I had to pay an extra $250 for that. They also said that I had to pay extra for the Freon, which I knew was in the contract. My neighbor is a code enforcement officer so I had him look and take pictures. He said that there was nothing out of code about it.

The contractor sent the guy on Saturday. They said between 9:00 and 5:00, but he didn’t get to me until 7:30 at night. Then he had to work at the house until nearly 10:00. He was a nice guy and he installed the compressor. I asked what he did to upgrade the system so it would come up to code. He tried to justify it, but being told that it was out of code when it was not, I was unhappy. I agreed to pay though and gave him the check. I had the AC looked at on Monday and was told that there was nothing done more than what was already there.

The tech put in some new wire, soldered new joints, and added stuff, but there were no code upgrades. He got the air conditioner working where we could live through Saturday and Sunday, but we saw immediately that the air conditioner was not keeping the temperature. It was 70 in the afternoon and it rose to 74. Last night, it rose to 78. The contractor sent somebody out yesterday who said it looked like everything was working right.

As soon as the tech left, during the heat of the afternoon, there was a 10 degree differential from the thermostat to what it was reading as far as indoor temperature was concerned. It took six hours after the sun went down to bring the temperature back down. My wife had surgery and we sat for two weeks without AC, but that didn’t hurry the contractor up. My AC is still not working and I’m $500 worse off.

I got an email back the next day and within a week, a contractor came. He was nice and he checked it all out but he didn’t see any problems. He said a scoop needed to be put in but AHS doesn't cover that.

The only reason I got AHS was that it was included in the house I bought. But I can do all the work myself like putting in the scoop for the air conditioner, which I ended up doing myself. I logged on to the American Home Shield website, submitted a claim and it's a user-friendly process. The website is helpful. I can return to it, see the claim status and its history. When I submit a claim or request, I got some drop down boxes then picked HVAC, and submit it. I got a response immediately that said that the contractor has been notified and they will contact me within 24 hours.

The contractor communicated when they were on their way. They came out to look at it and determined that the coil had cracked in several places. They removed that coil, took it back to the shop, brazed it, repaired it, came back and installed it. It worked fine, but then a day or so later, we noticed it started happening again, so they came right back out, and they found one other defect in a Schrader valve. They remedied that, and it’s been working fine ever since. They were polite, friendly and didn't leave a mess. I would recommend American Home Shield.

My oven was delivered and I went out of town for a wedding. When we got back and turned it on, we smelled something bad. Home Shield sent somebody out here who went over the whole stove and found a lot of stuff, which was foil in the wrong place. He had to come back out since all of it was not taken out and I was double charged, which I was told I won't be. I called Home Shield to get that straightened out and I haven’t had any bad problems with them, except I don’t like their call center at night. I get so many foreigners who can’t understand me and I can’t understand them, and then they get offended when I tell them I need to speak to an American. I don’t get taken care of and I learned not to call at night.

Recently, I flipped a switch in the house to get to the garage and it shut off the whole back half of the house, which is a major deal and it got taken care of speedier than the first time. I was told that because it was the garage, Home Shield wouldn’t cover it, but the garage is in the house. In the end, Tim (the contractor) came out, fixed it and it was great. He explained to me what was wrong and he got right to the problem. He was good and I liked him a lot.

It was very easy to do claims with AHS both online and through phone. We received their email notification about who was gonna be coming out for our air conditioning unit and they came out the next business day. They were extremely prompt, knowledgeable and it was a fairly easy fix for them. It worked out perfectly. There has been no issues since the repair. AHS was exactly as I expected and hoped it would, and I would recommend them.

Every time I submitted a request through American Home Shield they respond within three days and are always on it right away. But there was this one time where I had a problem with one of the companies they send out for my air conditioner. The contractor misdiagnosed the AC and it took them four times to finally find and diagnose the problem.

It took several months for the claim to be completed because the first time they came out, they said the AC was leaking Freon. Initially, it cost me about $500 because a lot of the things that the contractor was doing wasn't actually the problem and AHS doesn't cover 100% of the Freon, so I had to pay for that. The company they subcontract didn't have their game together and not AHS. I had to finally ask AHS to not send that company back out here and instead to send someone else, and they said no problem. So, another company found the problem and they fixed the AC. It turned out that it actually was the coil that needed to be replaced. I’ve had American Home Shield for many years but with different properties and I've been happy with the overall experience.

The current break down. Been a member of AHS since 2010. In 2010 I had my ac system replaced. Paid the deductible and all was good. Since then I have had appliances fix with no problems - example washing machine, refrigerator, and microwave. Also complete hot water heater replacement. In all cases I paid my deductible and was a happy homeowner. Fast forward to 2018. I have a broken gas furnace that need to be replaced. AHS will replace but does not include modifications - for example connecting the existing gas line additional $140, duct modification $225, vent modification $250, disposal fee $75 and a permit fee $150. Totaling $840 out of my pocket. So I looked into the cash out option and they will give me $488 to replace the gas furnace and $300 of that is for labor. Quick math that means they can buy a gas furnace for $188. Crazy. As a homeowner you are better off saving your money. I would not recommend AHS.

On Sunday the 4th now both bathrooms clogged up and tub full of sewer water and still no one able to come by. To make matters worse the plumber came took longer to arrive at the home than what he took inspecting only because he didn't even try to unclog not once. Quoted me on a 4000 dollar almost job that would come out of my pocket because American Home Shield can't cover mud and roots on the pipe?

For this I could of hired or gotten an estimate somewhere else and not wasted many days for nothing! Very disappointed with this. Only took plumber's words and not the clients? Good news. I had a person come out. Did the job and no roots and mud at all... And only paid what was right. It was a bad experience for my family since this could be an old issue. We only have been at our new home for 15 days of even.

This is the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life! Our water heater went out and began leaking and flooding our garage. I was away at work, so I was unable to help. My 8-month pregnant wife calls the service line and was told she would not be help for 48 hours and there was no one who could help her. When she explained she was PREGNANT and has suffered complications, therefore she would be unable to do anything physically, the representative responded "tough" and ended the call.

After my wife explained the situation I called back to get clarity as to why it would take 48 hours and to see if there was anything I could do to have it expedited as this is an emergency and a circumstance that requires immediate assistance. I explained my wife was pregnant and disabled due to pregnancy complications and asked politely could he direct me to a manager. He responded, "no" I explained to him maybe I was not conveying correctly the severity of the situation. Before I could finish my explanation he cut me off and said "Sir, I completely understand your situation. I've been there before and this is the best I can do."

Baffled and insulted by his comment I asked him his name (John) and gender (male) and how could he possibly been in my disabled 8-month pregnant wife's shoes and if he wasn't referring to her, he did not know our situation so how could he make such an insensitive comment. He responded "You gave me the highlights. I know what's going on and I won't help you any more than I have" and when I asked several times to speak to a manager he hung up.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD WITH ANY HUMAN BEING ON THIS EARTH. THE INSINCERITY, LACK OF EMPATHY, lack of emotional intelligence, and just plain rudeness of this company is unparalleled and disgraceful. *To add insult to injury no one ever showed. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company or any of its affiliates. They clearly have no intent on helping their customers just take their money.

When we bought our house, the air conditioners were running and everything was working. Then, the first one crapped out and we had a guy come and tried to fix it five times but he couldn't get it. Then, AHS sent A-Plus Air Conditioning. The tech there was nice. He explained everything and showed me what was wrong with the air conditioner. He even replaced the part in front of me and he had the thing running. What impressed me so much was the guy said he's leaving the country and if it's a big job, he may not be able to help. But still, he opened his truck, got his tools and he came over and fixed the air conditioner. He then put everything back and left the country for vacation.

I told American Home Shield the kind of repairman he was. He just doesn't come and replace parts, he troubleshoots the whole thing by narrowing it down and he zeroes in on the part and fixes it. He was very skilled and efficient. And so when we called American Home Shield and asked for A-Plus again, they listened. We appreciate the help and they saved a lot of money. In closing, it's a hit and miss with the vendors, but with the first guy from A-Plus, he was good. He kept replacing parts till it got going.

Then, they say I can do it online. I would if I could, but I can't sometimes because of my carrier. I got issues right now that I have to do and I just haven’t been able to get through them. But generally, when they get the claim, they send somebody out quickly. The contractor would also text us quickly that they’re gonna handle it, so that’s never a problem.

The repairs have been good, too. I've had contractors out for my icemaker and a few other things, as well as to the guest house, and all were done well. There was one air conditioning contractor I didn't care for, though. He didn’t wanna look at what I had going on during the winter because it was winter. I had a general air-conditioning/heating review done at my own expense and they identified some problems, but the guy they sent out wouldn’t look. I complained about it and I did not see him again. AHS sent somebody different the next time, but I still haven’t resolved that issue. Also, with our recent claim which was for the spring on the garage door that broke, we had to pay $75 to have them come out and service it, but we also had to pay for the spring ourselves since it was wear and tear and not a mechanical thing.

I haven't had any problems with it not being responsive. For this claim, my washing machine wasn't spinning and thoroughly agitating. It wasn't automatically advancing into the final spin, when it's supposed to wring out all the clothes. The guy who came out was from Gulf Appliance Repair and he was great. He was very interactive. The first time he came, my adult daughter was here and he explained everything to her. But after that, this problem still existed. So we put in a recall. In the second call, he interacted with me and he was great the whole time. He took care of the issue and the washing machine worked fine after that.

But when I did laundry this last weekend, it was not advancing to the spin cycle again. The water drains but it doesn't spin to swing the water out. So I put in a second recall. But my machine is really old. It might simply be time to replace my machine. Nonetheless, we've not had any bad experiences with having American Home Shield as our home warranty provider and the guy from Gulf Appliance Repair was really good. We had a backflow in our kitchen sink so I called American Home Shield. They called back and said when the contractor will be out here. The contractor were quick and were efficient. They resolved the problem pretty quickly. I've been with AHS for four years and I have always been very happy with American Home Shield. I’ve recommended them to people who owns several buildings here in Las Vegas.

Our oven did not have sensor working on the buttons so we were unable to bake things at 300 degrees. We had to bake with either two or 400 so AHS sent somebody out to fix it. They also came out for a dryer situation, which turned out to be just an issue that we were not dealing with properly. Both times the contractors were super nice and were really good. They were on-time, pleasant to deal with, super informative and fast. Both repairs that were done were also done in one appointment. However, I'm gonna submit another claim real soon because our oven is still not baking properly and our dishwasher is not cleaning. But overall, it's worth the money and I'm very satisfied.

I try to file my claims online first and the website is easy to navigate. It's user-friendly. I had a problem with my air conditioner where we had a little water clog into the drainage up from the unit. About 5 minutes after I put in the claim, Air Max contacted me. The contractor came out and said that he knew what the problem was as he had seen it before. He had a little bit of whatever he needed to and then blow it out. He was able to clear that clog right away and it was professionally done. We have no back-up of the water, so everything is good now. Having a home warranty is always good and it's valuable to me. So far my experience with American Home Shield has been good.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the rep I spoke with was fine. However, the people who came to fix it had problems. The first time, the contractors didn't replace the microwave bulb. After a while, I just gave up and forgot about it. I got too many other things to do than having to call them and have to hold on to the phone for a long time before you can get somebody to answer.

Recently, the contractor fixed the front burner that had a problem and the back burner started having the same kind of problem. So, I called again and they ordered parts. They never came back in while. I called them again and the technician came in but in the end, none of the lighters worked on my stove. They told me to replace it but they were only giving me $900. My stove is way more expensive so I haven’t found one that I can replace it with. They said it’s much more expensive to repair it that to replace it but for me, to replace it would be more expensive because the choices they gave me was not the same as what my stove is right now. It would be nice if they can just repair the stove that I have. It’s only a lighter problem and the stove works fine. You have to use matches or something else. They said that they would replace it, so I would assume they should be replacing what I have and not give me some choices that I have to choose from.

The contractors from AHS would come and try to fix things but you have to pay $100 anyway, and you can do that to any other technician that you call. Plus, you have to pay your monthly installment for the insurance. So, it doesn’t make sense when they don’t give you the same product that you have. You shouldn’t have to settle with something else when it's their turn to replace it.

Our air conditioner was leaking water when the AC unit was running. Since it was kinda late and it was after business hours, I filed a claim for it online. AHS is really responsive. We got a call back really quickly once we submitted the information to set up an appointment. Our contractor was United Air Temp and my husband was the one home when the contractor came. I told my husband that everything was covered, but when I got home, I found out that my husband paid $42 for a tablet that goes in to help with the condensation. I wasn’t happy about that. Getting that tablet was definitely needed but we could have been told that it was something that we could do ourselves. We could go to Home Depot, purchase the tablet for 12 bucks and put it in ourselves.

Submitting my claims online with American Home Shield has been easy. They've been quick to get somebody out here. They've always called to say when they're coming. We had a plumbing issue and the contractor, Durango of Alabama, did a good job of explaining what was going on. The first time, I wasn’t there and they talked to my daughter. So, that one didn’t go so well. There was a lot of confusion as to what they thought the issue was. But on the follow-up visit, we were able to get some answers and see exactly what needed to happen. We found out that it wasn’t necessarily a plumbing issue. It was water getting under the tub because of not having proper sealing. They did a good job of pointing that out and showing me what they needed to do and where the water was getting through.

We submit claims with American Home Shield online for the ease of it. Their website is easygoing. I just thought there should be a little bit more explanation or if we could get to choose. But it was really nice to have AHS online, so I do appreciate that. If something happens 10:00 at night, we still can get online. We feel like we're able to, at least, submit a claim, then we get an email or a text right away saying that it has been submitted, and I like that.

The techs who came to our home have been fine. I was really impressed with On Time Plumbing & Heating. They came in and they had little booties they put on. They were very respectful, very polite, communicated every step, which I loved. They explained each step and I appreciated that. Even though I may know what that part was called, they at least attempted to explain what they were doing. I was well-informed.

We have a pending claim with AHS as they still haven't fixed my stove. They've replaced most of its parts and have ordered another part, but I haven't heard back from the contractor, Josh's Appliance. That's been a couple of weeks ago and this whole thing has been going on for three months. My stressor is Thanksgiving is coming up, and I've been in the house for three months, and I still have no stove to be able to even know if it's gonna work. I was given Josh's company until Friday. If we won’t hear from him by Friday, then I’m gonna call and make a complaint. I don't wanna dog on the contractor yet 'cause it may be something out of his control. Other than that, I've had no problems with any communication with AHS.

I had a problem with my dishwasher. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The user interface is fairly simple but could use some adjustments. The technician that came out was hilarious. He was a good guy too. He also made a special time to come out for me because of my work schedule. He found out what the problem was when he came out, then he went back, ordered the parts, came back out and fixed it. It took about a week from the time he got here. I tried using it the next day but it didn’t work right so I called them back. They came back out, looked at it again and ordered the parts. But I was going out of town that weekend so the part came in a few days after I got back then he came back out and fixed it. Everything is working fine since then.

One time, I had a problem with my refrigerator and it took quite some time to be able to get it fixed. AHS sent the same technician back out six times. He wasn’t able to fix it. He said he was gonna get some parts. It wound up being eight months later and he still hadn’t contacted me back. Then they had to send somebody else out and it took them a month to go through their rigmarole. I told American Home Shield that I don’t want to deal with that company again. I have had a few difficulties here and there with AHS but nothing that I wouldn’t recommend the company to somebody else.

The pool filter stopped running and the contractor that AHS sent was also the one who installed the last pump and he said that the pump was shot because a part wasn't sealed on it. The guy was a nice enough fellow and he had been out here before, but if he had sealed it nicely the first time, it wouldn't have burned out because of water getting in from a rainstorm. He then said that it was not covered. We had him replace it and paid for it out of pocket.

I was surprised that it was a rebuilt one and I could have a rebuilt pump through my pool guy. He would've put it in if it has no connection to American Home Shield or any reimbursement. Other than that, whenever I call to submit a claim and talk to AHS' people, they are always very helpful. If the claim is something that's easily answered, I just click on the right things online, and in this recent case, it was like, "What's wrong? Pool pump" then I hit the button and that was it. The claims submission process was very easy.

AHS' response was always pretty quick. We had to wait a couple of days for the pool claim but it wasn't anything that caused any problems. The pool was turned off but if it happened in the middle of summer, a pool could get green pretty quick if things weren't being cleaned because of the heat. We've had AHS for years and it always feels good to have that coverage.

My microwave, which is part of a combined microwave/oven wall unit, began rusting and peeling inside about 8 months ago and now has grown to several spots. Upon researching this online I found 5 websites saying it’s time to replace, they are unsafe. I called AHS on September 24th to ask for service for the claim. Their selected company, National Platinum Service called that day and the technician was at my home on the 26th. The unit was so old there was no readable serial number or model on the metal plate. He took photos, called his boss and forwarded the photos to him. He left saying he was going back to do the report to AHS and they would be sent to them that day or the next. I waited 10 days before I called AHS because I had heard nothing from them. I was told they did not receive any information from the vendor yet, but they would contact them.

About a week later they had not called, so I called them back. I got the SAME answer! I called the next week and again was told they had not received any information from the vendor, but when I got angry, she said she would put me on hold while she contacted the vendor. She said she reached them and they were faxing the report. While we were still on the phone she said she received it, and she was forwarding it to the department it needed to go to. That phone call was over 45 minutes because I was on hold so long. When I asked when I could expect to hear from AHS about what they were going to do, she said she didn’t know, there was no timeframe for them to respond!!!

I have waited 2 weeks for a call and finally called again today and was told THEY HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE VENDOR! I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for 22 minutes waiting. He said there were no notes in the file about anyone contacting the vendor or any vendor response. I was livid by this point. I told him I have been a 4 year customer and I have kept my responsibility by paying my premium on time, what kind of responsibility did they have to me to uphold their end of the contract? Why weren’t they proactively pursuing the report since they initiated it? Why is no one in the customer service department making notes in my file to indicate who had done what and planned any follow up?

The supervisor could not reach the vendor, had to leave a message... so here we are 6 weeks from the first call-no microwave to use-no resolution or even idea how or when I might have one. I am paying these con-artists $52 a month. The only thing they have done is put a new motor in a 30 year old air conditioner that has looked like it was on its last leg when I bought this home, and replaced 2 lines on the newer unit. Those repairs were taken a care of in about a week. I paid the $75 or $80 charge each time someone has come to look at anything whether they fix it or not. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I bet you aren’t on hold when you call to sign up with them, but you can count on long ones if you call for service!

I can’t tell if AHS is legit or a scam... so far the service is the pits! On 10/12 Friday evening I noticed my freezer foods starting to thaw... I wasn’t sure if it was an issue yet so I moved the food to a deep freezer and turned up the dial to max and checked the next morning. I could see it wasn’t recovering and the fridge was starting warming up too. On 10/13 I went online and put my service order in and paid my $75.00 deductible. By Monday, over 48 hours later, I noticed I haven’t received any emails and my deductible payment wasn’t processed. I called and waited a long time until I got rep. I pointed out I put in a service and paid a deductible and wanted to know when I would be assigned a service provider... she checked and set me up for service again, I suspect so it would look like they were still in their time frame.

She offered Sears or GE... it would be a week before either service provider but she offered me to find my own. I was still talking to her and went on GE site and could get a service provider by the next day 10/16 but hers say a week from Tues 10/23. I was not looking forward to a week without my fridge so we settled on Sears (ugh, I know why they went bankrupt) who could come on 10/18. On that day Sears guy shows determines it's a leak in the Evap system (?) calls in and orders parts. Then tells me the parts will be relieved to my house and he will be back 10/30 to install. Wait? What? That’s a long time without a fridge.

His suggestion, rent a fridge at $30.00/week. No! Anywho, parts arrive 10/25 and when he showed up on 10/30 he says “These aren’t the right parts," so he reorders and tells me 11/15 will be when he comes back but gave me his number just in case they come in early. He will try to come back early. 11/2 a large box arrives and I try calling the service techs number and left a message, I tried texting him and he responded with a text he would check his schedule. That’s it.

Have tried calling him and texting today and left another message. I’m sick of calling AHS cause there is nothing they can do... so at this point I’ve been without a refrigerator for 23 days and that gets expensive to buy ice and shop every day. I out $75.00 deductible, and they just took their $64.99 monthly from me. And I have to wait until 11/15 to see if the right part arrived and my fridge can be repaired. That will be 33 days without a working fridge... and that’s if the right part was ordered and he can repair it. Like I said AHS and Sears are the pits... don’t do it! I could have taken all the money I have spent on monthly fees and deductibles and purchased a new fridge.

I think it was just a little computer glitch. Otherwise, American Home Shield would be the best investment one would make.

When I file claims with American Home Shield, I feel that doing it over the phone is a little bit quicker than going online, so I usually call in and discuss with the customer service rep about what was going on with the particular item and they worked on getting somebody out there to see what the problem was. We recently filed a claim for our water heater and the contractor they sent was courteous and polite and the repair that they did was excellent. I'd recommend AHS.

We had an issue with our pool and we submitted a claim with AHS. We do that online 90% of the time and their website is pretty easy to use. But for this claim, we had a less than great experience with one of the vendors that was the first choice for doing things for the pool. It wasn't like he didn't know what he was doing on the pool. It was just like pulling teeth trying to communicate with him and he was not somebody that I really wanted to work with again. It would've been nice if online, you could request and see who was gonna call or text you before they actually contact you. Because it was a little awkward to have somebody contact you and you didn't like them. So, it’d be nice if AHS would tell you who’s gonna contact you, so you could say if you want another vendor.

We talked to somebody at American Home Shield and we asked for somebody else to come and everything was fine with the other vendor that they sent. So, we ended up getting the pool fixed just fine. Also, one of the reasons that we weren’t super happy with the original tech that came out was that we had five visits for the pool that year and all the problems that we had all kinda stemmed from one thing. But nobody really caught it. They only came and looked at exactly what was wrong and didn’t look at the whole pool system. If they would've figured out that the pool pump that we had was much too powerful for the rest of the equipment, then all this other stuff wouldn’t have broken. So, that was a little bit frustrating. The tech that we weren’t really pleased with finally found it. But he had been here three times before and it was the first time that he noticed that.

Yesterday, we filed another claim with American Home Shield Yeah for an electrical issue and we have somebody coming today to look at the pool. We’re trying to figure out if the electrical problem that we’re having inside has to do with the pool electrical problem as well. We blew a fuse in one of the bathrooms and one of the electricians that we talked to on the phone suggested that they might be related. But their pool guy comes today, and the electrical guy comes on Thursday.

Other than that, we’ve gotten our money’s worth from AHS. We were seriously considering not renewing for the second year because we thought we’ve gotten everything fixed that was a little bit older in our house. Then at the last minute, we decided to go ahead and do it. I’m glad that we did it because we would've ended up spending a lot more money already this year. I would recommend AHS to others depending on the age of their home. If they have a brand-new home and everything is new and not quite as likely to break down, I would tell them that maybe they should get AHS. But anybody who’s got a home that’s at least a couple of years old is gonna end up needing to fix or replace something. With AHS, you usually earn your money back if you’d call them once or twice a year.

We've had American Home Shield for years and years. We own three properties and we have AHS on all three. When we came home from work and the AC unit wasn’t working, I tried resetting breakers and did all the sort of normal stuff. We tried to submit the claim online, but it wasn’t working. I somehow got a chat session up with American Home Shield and the rep allowed me to submit the service request by chatting because the website was not working. We would like American Home Shield to fix their website. It is terrible and it does not do anything for us. Every time we log in, it doesn’t have our name there. It says, “Enter your property address.” We do that, but it says, “You have no contract,” although we have three contracts. We put in an issue with American Home Shield to have the AC looked at on October 13th, but it is still not fixed as of today and it has been terrible.

AHS was very quick in providing us with a local contractor, who contacted us within 24 hours, then came to the house within 24 hours and identified the part to be a compressor. He contacted AHS within two hours to order the compressor. American Home Shield had to order the part from whatever their resources were and now a month later, the repair people don’t have the part. They have been over the top responsive, but we’ve been on hold with American Home Shield all the time. They do not pick up the phone automatically.

The other day, I waited an hour and 40 minutes for them to pick up the phone. Once I got somebody on the phone, they transferred me and hung up. I called back and I was on the phone for an hour and 30 minutes. They picked up the phone and hung up on us. I called back and waited for 35 minutes. I finally got somebody on the phone and they said they would look into it and call us back, but we never got a callback.

We’ve had no issues with Strickland's Heating and Air that has been the waiting for the part. American Home Shield has not provided us with any information. Their response to us was, “We have ordered the part, and it was shipped.” In return, that is a lie because they could not provide us with a tracking number. The second time, they told me, “We ordered the part and we don’t have a tracking number yet.” The part was gonna be sent to them in Memphis, Tennessee and when they receive it in three to five business days, then they would send it to Strickland's Heating and Air, which will take three to five business days. Then, Strickland's Heating and Air will contact us to set up an appointment. We told them, “Well, thank you very much because that will put us in December. So how would you like us to do this?” They still could not tell us anything.

When I called this morning, they finally answered. I was talking to the rep and I said that I was really upset and that if it is not fixed, we are gonna cancel all three accounts. This is ridiculous. The rep said, “Well, okay. I’ll put you on hold.” She put us on hold for a minute and she came right back on, but whoever it was she needed to get information from wasn’t available. She said, “How about you call back in about an hour?” I’ve been waiting for over an hour to get her on the phone so I said, “Are you serious? You want me to call you back, wait another hour, so that you can tell me what the status is? I have an idea. How about you get the information, and call me back.” On the other hand, the contractors have been very responsive and have always been right there. They are trying to find out where American Home Shield is getting the part from because they know of local people here that they can get the part from.

I disconnected the gooseneck and the guy who came told me that when I did that, it wasn't under warranty because it wasn't in the sink anymore. Then I had a claim for my stove and a technician from GE was sent out. He seemed to be very knowledgeable into his work and was professional in every way. He wanted to make sure that I understood what the problem was, what he was gonna do to repair it, how he was gonna repair it, and that might take a little extra time for a part to come out. The stove has been good since it was repaired.

My air conditioner quit cooling and I couldn't live with that. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and it was a holiday but the techs from Greenway Home arrived within 24 hours. They had to put two pounds of Freon and AHS paid $10 per pound, so I was charged $20 for that. I thought I was overcharged by Greenway and the cost was never adjusted.

I also had a claim for my ice maker in November of last year and the tech took ten days to come out. He brought his son with him and he was having a lot of problems. I felt a little sorry for him and my son fixed them dinner. The tech even ordered a new ice maker, but he didn’t put it in. And when I called again, AHS told me that I had to pay for another claim for the man to come back out. But I explained to them that the issue wasn’t fixed and the man was having problems.

It took him another 10 days to 2 weeks to come back and the next time he came out, he said that the ice maker was not repairable. In the end, AHS replaced the refrigerator with a brand new one. They sent me an email and I had to choose one. It wasn't like I could go out and pick whatever I wanted but I got a nice one and it was delivered by Sears. AHS covered all of it but I had to pay the $75 service cost each time the tech came out. Even so, I am pleased with the new refrigerator. Other than that, I had my washing worked at and when my dryer had a leak somewhere, AHS' contractor fixed that. It just took them a while to do so. So, AHS needs to expedite the timing of getting things done with their contractors. It's also hard to get people with them. But I like AHS and I would recommend them to everybody.

There was a break in my drainage, and I couldn't use my washing machine because the water was coming in from my kitchen floor and sink. When I submitted my claim to American Home Shield, they emailed and had me scheduled with a plumber for an appointment. But I wasn't at home so I didn't get it until late that night. They gave me a second appointment and when they called, I was at home. The plumber got in touch with me a couple of days later and he came at the time they said he was gonna be.

At first, I thought that it was my washing machine that was leaking. But after the plumber did an investigation, he found out that it wasn't. He found out that it was a breakage on my line in the floor, so he had to notify American Home Shield and get it approved. Once we got it approved, AHS sent us the plumber that could take care of it, and everything went smoothly. In the end, although I had to cease the washing for about a week, they did a good job repairing the breakage. I was very pleased with my experience with AHS.

When I had some dampness in one of the bathrooms downstairs, The Lindsay Company came out. But the technician said that it might be a leak in our attic from our air conditioning drain pan. The plumber should have taken care of whatever he needed to take care of. Instead, he said that it was an AC deal, not his. I paid the claim of $75 and now American Home Shield is asking for another $75 because they called an AC guy. I'm not paying that. I called and made one claim. If they say they need payment because of the AC guy then that's beyond my control. It's really silly. Plus if they're gonna send somebody else, they should at least call and let me know. I got nothing. On the other hand, I am getting the emails that I need to take care of my account.

Also, I had called for a week straight to ask a question and I was on hold for 15 to 30 minutes on each call. That was ridiculous. In the beginning, it was great. I made a phone call once or twice to ask questions then I had a previous claim. Those were fine. I never waited. This was my first bad experience. But still, I called five times in one week and I couldn't get anybody on the phone within the first few minutes. So I won't be renewing with American Home Shield.

In customer service, I couldn't get anybody on the phone. But I tried all kinds of numbers to get ahold of somebody. The system said to press three for new customers or renewals. When I pressed three, I got a lady on the phone in two seconds. So I had her but when I asked her whether they would cover deteriorating pipes in the wall, she said she doesn't know the answer. I asked her if she would know that answer if I was a new customer and she said no. I said that if they're trying to get a customer, that would probably be a question they would ask. I asked her again if she didn't know the answer and she said no.

When I made my contract with American Home Shield, I told them that almost all my appliances are brand new, but I still wanted them covered because I wanted to keep going with them. One of the things that broke was a brand new LG refrigerator (less than a year old). American Home Shield sent somebody over who looked at it and said it’s under warranty, so it will be replaced, but people who can handle LG are needed and they don’t. They called American Home Shield and a second person was sent over. He said not to worry and they'll take care of it. He called American Home Shield and they called a third company that came over.

I told them that before they come to see, it’s LG and it’s under warranty. He said they do that kind of work, so they came and fixed it. I also had a garage door problem and that was a separate issue. I didn’t pay both of them and said I’ll pay after. That way I can make sure there’s no problem. I paid both of them, one online and the other when I called in, but I started getting e-mails saying I owed $100 for the basic call on the refrigerator. I called American Home Shield and they said that was a mistake. The $100 I paid on the first one carries for the other ones also because it’s just that. They said my record was clear and this was the fifth time. I talked to five people and kept their names and the dates I called, one of which was two days ago.

I received an e-mail issued on the 1st of November saying I still owed $100 and it was 30 days overdue. I’m getting tired of this because I have to call and I don’t even mind the call, but it’s almost 20 to 25 minutes each time per call to go through and that’s more pain than anything else. I shouldn’t have to make calls that many times to try to correct something, which they keep saying is corrected and there is no problem, but two weeks later, I get another e-mail saying I'm overdue. I called and the rep said sorry, that they looked into the records and it showed I owed nothing.

I was also told it’s not gonna go against my credit score. I have a 920 and I don’t wanna screw on that. I have my American Express bills showing $200 was taken out by American Home Shield. They said they see it was submitted to the accounting and it was all taken care of, but it might take them some time and that I should just ignore it. All in all, I am very happy with them as far as their repair and response to any problem, but I’m not happy with the billing. It seems that one hand doesn’t know what the other hand’s doing or for some reason, they can’t take care of it.

The ice maker in the refrigerator door stopped working and GE Appliances came out. The tech that came out was phenomenal. He was very considerate, and very polite. He is probably in the top one or two of all the techs that we have had over the course of my life. He explained what was going on and what to expect. There is a heater that comes on periodically and they believed that the heater stopped working. The tech used the heat gun and he was careful not to melt the heater inside the door. It defrosted the water that was frozen in the lines, but he said it was gonna happen again if the heater wasn't working, so they ordered the part.

The local warehouse didn't have the part, though, and the tech didn't know it when he was here. He ordered it on a Friday and it took about three weeks for the part to get here. They were waiting for the part to come into the warehouse, but when I called, there was none. They may even haven’t any one order from the GE warehouse, so they had to get it from another warehouse and they shipped it to the local warehouse. They had to check it in and they put it in inventory, and they had to ship it out by truck. It took about three weeks to get the ice maker fixed and it was the GE warehouse's fault.

I asked why they didn't call another warehouse if they didn't have the part, but they said that it was not the way their system works and that they wait for them to come in. I asked when they were coming in and the rep said that there was none on order that time. I said that their system sucked and I asked when they were gonna get it. She said she didn't know and that nobody ordered it yet. When the tech came, he apologized and put the part in, but I told him that it wasn't his fault.

It's a new house and they came with GE appliances, but the dishwasher had to be replaced before we came in because it wasn't working. The stove broke down a year ago and the keypad went on it. The tech asked if I boil water on the back burner and I told him sometimes depending on what I'm cooking. He told me not to ever boil at the back because there is nowhere for the steam to go. The steam and humidity go in the back part of the stove and it shorts out the keypad. When the tech came, he knew what it is. He reset the keypad and it worked. However, it didn't work three days later. It kept showing codes and things and it was blinking like 700 degrees start, but nothing was happening. It was going haywire, so I called up the tech. He said that he was gonna order the part. He came in when he got the part and took the old motherboard out. He put the new motherboard in and it was fixed, and I haven't had a problem.

Every GE appliance we have in the house has broken down except for the microwave and the tech told me usually, the microwave is the first one to go because it's above the stove and it sucks up all the moisture from when I am cooking things and boiling water on it. But he told me never to boil water on the back burners and to always use the vent channel on the microwave to suck all the air up. If not, the microwave keypad will go too.

It took American Home Shield two days short of three weeks to get my air conditioner fixed during the summer. About two weeks ago, I was in Florida and I had people from World Class AC come. They had to order a part. The tech came and put the part in, but they sent him the wrong part. He had to order it again, but they didn't have any in stock, so they had to order from whoever they got it from. By the time he could fit me into his schedule to put the part in, it was another week. Also, American Home Shield asked if I wanted to pay that time or after the service was done. I always say, "Pay after the service is done," but they charged me the day I ordered the service and it took them almost three weeks to get it fixed. Their customer service sucks.

I talked to one lady and complained about the service for the air conditioning and she said, "At least you have an air conditioner. The people up in the Panhandle Florida -- They don't have any, so consider yourself lucky." I'm paying American Home Shield about $600 a year plus $100 a call, and she told me to feel lucky. I don't think so. I'm looking around for somebody else.

American Home Shield does a great job. The last claim we had with them was for a plumbing issue and it was good in general. When I submit my claims for service, I no longer like to do it over the phone because I always have to have a credit card with me and I’m never at the house to call through a landline phone. I’m a real estate agent, so I have direct contacts with people there that I’ve had relationships with for 10 plus years. So, sometimes, I text them to submit a claim or have my office do it online.

Although AHS seems to be doing their job the best they can, I’m not happy with their contractors. When the plumbers showed up, sometimes they couldn’t fix things and AHS had to send someone else out. Also, sometimes the plumbers didn’t show up, then AHS had to get on top of the contractors. They’re only as good as their contractors and that’s the only reason why I got frustrated with them. Other than that, I've had a home warranty with AHS for several years and I still use them quite a bit because they have the best customer service out of all the home warranty companies.

Every time I’ve called AHS, they’ve responded quickly and they’ve taken care of the issue. Recently, I called them to submit a claim for a dryer and my experience with that was great. There was a bad control board in our clothes dryer and after we contacted them, the tech was out within a couple of days to look at it. He diagnosed the problem very quickly then he ordered a part. As soon as the part came in, he came back and fixed the dryer. So it was back in working order in about a week and we've had no problems since the repair.

I submitted my claim over the phone for my boiler and it was easy. However, every time I call AHS, they inform me that I am giving the new contract number and I don't understand that. Willy, the technician from Perfect Temp LLC who came, did an outstanding job. I was informed of what my issues were. There were parts required for the repair so he had to come back out in a couple of days. After the repair, everything has been good. I'd tell friends that they should give AHS a call.

I prefer to call in when submitting a claim but calling it in or doing it online, either way, works. I like the contractor and all of them was fine. But they couldn't figure out what was wrong with my washer. They had to keep on coming out so many times. But they got it done and they were good and like experts. The last man who I told about it figured out what was the problem and finally ordered the part and got it fixed. Everything’s working fine.

We've been with American Home Shield for a long time and used them for a good 20 years. We have more than one property with them and they’ve always been very attentive to us. We’ve sent them a bunch of customers and friends. We have split AC units here and when the motor on one of them went out, I called AHS. They have fantastic reps who are right to the point. They get the information and before the 24 hours pass, I get a call from the service people.

AHS is superb. For this particular AC claim, we just had the tail-end of a hurricane, and Warren-Hay Mechanical Contractors were really up to their neck in alligators. But they were out here within a couple of days. I told AHS the last time that Warren-Hay were the people that came before and we were very satisfied with them. If they were available, we preferred for them to come. The rep looked and said they were. Warren-Hay has been sent out here thrice. I normally request this contractor because there was one contractor, Harbor Mechanical, that AHS sent out that I didn't find satisfactory. I spoke AHS to never to send them back out here.

I have been with American Home Shield for many years. We used to have two homes and I have their service in both our homes. Though we sold our home north and are now living in our home in Florida, I've continued to keep it. We've had many claims with American Home Shield. A number of years ago, they replaced our air conditioner and ductwork. When my microwave broke, they replaced it too.

Last month, I came out to the kitchen and there was a flood on my floor. Turns out, my dishwasher wasn't working. That was fixed in two weeks cause they had to wait for the part. Also, when my pool had an issue, it was taken care of within days. The gentleman came the day after I submitted the service request. And he said that the pool was leaking and he would try and seal the hole. If I have any issues, he told me to call back and he'd be back to replace it. We had to wait 24 hours for whatever stuff he put on it to cure. And when I went to turn it on, it was leaking. So I called right away and he said that the part had to be ordered. When he came out a few days later, he replaced the part and it was good to go.

When my refrigerator stopped cooling, AHS responded very quickly. They sent somebody out who tried to see if it could be fixed, but the part was no longer available. I had to call them to find out what exactly was going on because normally, they would have called right away, but I have not heard anything. When I called, the woman that I spoke with checked and she said that the refrigerator would be replaced. I had a choice of what refrigerators I wanted and if I wanted to upgrade, I could do that as well. Although, I would have to pay extra. I chose to stay with the one that they suggested. American Home Shield has been very good. I've recommended them to a number of people.

The blower in one of my air conditioning units wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and my phone was answered in a relatively quick, if not completely reasonable amount of time. I spoke to a person which I always appreciate, and told them it was not an urgent issue. But within 48 hours, I had contact from Aire Serv of Coastal Carolina and after the first contact, I had service on-site within 24 hours. The techs that came out were very good. They fixed it during the same visit as they had more than sufficient repair parts on board their truck. In fact, there was no ordering of parts and there's no scheduling of the second visit. I rate that as outstanding. In addition, the technicians were polite and proficient. Although I wish AHS' answering service could be a little quicker, I was impressed with their attention and responsiveness to their online service.

A man from Sears came out to fix our refrigerator that was not defrosting. We told him what was wrong and what parts he needed and he charged $100 for a diagnostic. He was here for 10 minutes and we were so aggravated that he was gonna charge AHS almost $400. That was a lot of money, but he sufficed it. We had to wait another week and a half for him to come back. He was supposed to come on Friday, so I took off work and sat there all day then he called at 3:15 to say that he was sick and wasn't coming. They rescheduled it for Tuesday, which is today. I talked to the Sears scheduler and she said he would be at our house between 3:00 and 5:00 so we didn't have to take off work. The tech said that the part that he had replaced was not working so he put another part in. It had been two and a half weeks total. We're gonna keep our fingers crossed that that did it.

Sometimes it's a little hard to understand the AHS reps when I file claims over the phone. I wish they were from America. We had trouble with our air conditioning unit at the beginning of the summer and Mcgrew Electric was sent out. The warranty specialist who came was the nicest man. He has been to our house twice with that unit this summer and we could not have asked for a better, very professional person. Overall, my experience with AHS has been really good so far.

I called American Home Shield to make a claim when my dishwasher quit. I told the rep what had happened and she scheduled Dale's Appliance Repair Inc to come out. They came out and fixed it right quick. When I first signed up with American Home Shield, I bought this house and I didn't know what kind of heating system I had or air conditioning. I thought it was a heat pump, but it turned out it was not. It is natural gas on my heat and electric on my air conditioning. But, I called in to make sure they all had it down right on the records and I was told that I was covered on both of them.

I had a contract with them before this house. When I bought this one out, I tried and went over to this one with them. But, on the last claim I had, when I called in for a repair on my air conditioning, it took three or four days before I heard anything and that was not good. I had two or three calls down here on my other house, and every time, it was the same thing. It ain't very good for a 75-year old like me and my wife who is 77, and we are sitting in a hot house. If they don't do better than that, I will be finding another company because I cannot go like that for a long time especially on a summertime.

Other than that, American Home Shield is good. I have recommended and would recommend them. When we called, we had good people that came out. They were knowledgeable and they know what they were doing. The electricians, especially when I had that heat pump down at Bismarck, were very good, too. When they came out, they fixed it and didn't fool around. They did a very good job.

There was something that was burnt out in my oven. I usually call American Home Shield but I was online at that time so I tried submitting the claim online and it was really easy. It was easier than calling and waiting for somebody to pick up. Then, the contractor came in and it took him no more than about 10 minutes to install it, make sure it was working properly, and check anything else that was wrong with it. He did great and we had a nice conversation. He’s a veteran too, so it was one of those things that we connected.

I love American Home Shield. It makes the process easy getting things done in a timely manner. I’ve heard colleagues and friends of mine with other insurance companies and they complain about wait time and other things. And I always laugh at them and always do a plug out for American Home Shield and ask them, “Why don’t you go here instead of using them? There are more things covered and it is less wait time.”

So far, I made three claims with American Home Shield for my air conditioning and heating unit. I did the first two online and I did the third one over the phone. American Home Shield's online site was very easy to use. Submitting a claim over the phone was fairly easy as well. We haven’t had any issues with the contractors. The first time they were here, it was because the unit was freezing up and it just needed to get cleaned out which fell on us. We know our warranty only covered parts. The other two that followed were because of a same problem.

The third service call was a recall. We had an issue with our unit where the fan motor wasn’t working when the air conditioner would kick on. And they came out and replaced the thermostat and some other control board. But when we went to use our heat, we experienced the same issue where the heater would come on, but it wouldn’t blow through the fan motor, which prompted me to do a recall. That should have been tested when we called them out initially because it all had to do with the fan motor. Other than that, the heat’s working now.

My only issue is if you had to do a recall for the same problem, you’re not able to do that on the website. You have to call in. I called the outside contractor they used first, and then they directed me over to American Home Shield, gave me their number and said that we would have to contact them to set a appointment. The website makes you pay the $75 fee. But if it’s the same issue, then as far as the consumer is concerned, you shouldn’t have to pay for something you already paid for. So, if consumers could just put it down as a recall for the same issue, it would save them from having to call in. Still, so far, the experience I’ve had with American Home Shield has been positive. Their rates are fair as far as what we have to pay for a service call.

They'd tell me what’s wrong and that they need to order a part, or tell me what’s wrong and say they got the part on the truck. I always try to do business with them because they’re honest and positive. They been straight shooters all the way. In fact, they had told me the last time they repaired my dryer that I needed to get my dryer vents cleared out. I asked them who they recommend and they gave me the guy’s name.

When the air conditioner went down, we used Nice air conditioning. But recently they weren’t available so AHS assigned Cool Works. I’m so used to dealing with Hooper and Nice. Cool Works was a new company that I worked with but I don't have any problems with them.

We have two-zone heating in our house and the thermostat was old. In the lower level, it would no longer switch from off to cool, so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I then got an automated response and I was able to follow the prompt to tell them what was going on. They came back to me almost immediately to tell me the name and phone number of the provider that would be contacting me to do the work and they automatically debited the $75 fee at my request. AHS chooses the provider and I am not able to choose my own plumbers. However, it has worked out for me every time and I’ve never had a bad experience with any of their providers.

Clifton Heating, the contractor that they sent, was very good. They replaced quite a bit of my furnace last year and it was something that wasn’t covered under the warranty because it was due to lack of maintenance. It was the only time I’ve ever had anything denied from American Home Shield. This time, Clifton was here the next day and replaced the thermostat. The way American Home Shield works is as long as an item can be repaired, they will repair it. If not, then they will replace it. Clifton did exceptional work and I’ve used them all the time without question. They even sent me a handwritten thank you note after.

My dryer stopped working in late August, so we put in a service request to have it fixed. A company quickly came to look at it (we have used this company through AHS multiple times and they have always been great) and said that they would have to order a new control board through AHS and would be in contact with us, but suggested we call AHS for any issues in the meantime. Being busy, about a month went by without hearing anything about the part or when our dryer would be fixed. I called AHS and spent close to two hours on hold. They said the part was on back order and they were "so surprised" that no one had updated me on the situation and gave me a date that the part would be in. The date they gave me came and went and I still had a broken dryer. I called them again and spent about an hour on hold this time. Again, they were "so surprised" I hadn't been updated, but the part was still on back order and would be in the next week.

Finally, TWO MONTHS (!) after the initial service request, the part arrives. The technician is busy and isn't able to come until a week later to fix the dryer (I don't hold that against them). They come on Wednesday, the dryer is fixed, I do two loads of laundry, life moves on. The following Sunday (4 days later), I need to do laundry again. I transfer clothes to the dryer, push the start button, and nothing happens. I call AHS and they basically don't care and told me I should get a temporary dryer (that's not a thing!) until they can figure out how to honor their warranty. I could have bought a new dryer with the amount I've spent on the BS home warranty. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on American Home Shield.

However, they would call me at home, when I told them I would not be there. It was a back and forth thing before I even got an appointment. When the contractor came out, they did something, but they didn’t tell me that it wasn’t complete. I got a phone call a month later saying they had to come back and hook up something for the heat, and they told us not to turn the heat on. They would contact the people, and whatever they say to those contractors, they would call me right back to set up an appointment. The contractor for the fire alarm sent an email, but then I didn't hear anything so I had to contact American Home Shield, and they contacted the people, and then they called me back to get set an appointment. I've had some good luck and some bad luck with American Home Shield. Lots of times, I can call a repair company and fix the issue cheaper than what American Home Shield would. What gets me on the whole thing is that, if it's a high-end appliance, they won't pay for it. They're just gonna pay for an entry-level. That's not a very good business sense of their part because if I'm trying to insure a nice appliance, whether it's Dacor, Sub-Zero, or something like that, and if it goes out, then they should pay for a replacement of that instead of a low-end GE that you get at Walmart. I don't know why that is because they know upfront what you have when you list your appliances. Also, that's not right because you've already spent the money on the thing, so you're paying for insurance on it and it shouldn't matter. Other than, I hadn't had a whole lot of issues with them.

The last claim I submitted to them was for our water well pump that had gone out, along with the pump and the motor, and they have it replaced. I did it through their website and then made a call just to double-check that they got it. I do a backup because sometimes it doesn't get passed on if I do a verbal, and sometimes it doesn't get passed on if I do online. So, I just do both to make sure they got it. Our water well was kinda our only water supply, so they got on it pretty quickly. The techs who came out were very good. They've been in business for a long time. They knew what they were doing and they basically got right to it and fixed it.

We refused them and we ended up paying twice and having to call somebody else besides AHS to come in and replace our garbage disposal. With that as our first experience with American Home Shield, I had second thoughts and asked my husband if we made the right decision by getting this insurance. Lo and behold, shortly after, we had an issue with the air conditioning and our experience was completely opposite in a very positive way. The air conditioner company that came out was absolutely wonderful and very professional.

They took care of us in the most expedient way. It didn't take the tech very long to come out and we told him what we were told when we had somebody else come to diagnose it. The circuit board was burned out and it had to be replaced. He looked at it and said the part needed to be ordered. After it was ordered, he came back and replaced it. Everything has been perfect and the tech was very respectful. We don’t wear shoes in our house and he wore booties and cleaned up. I was very happy with him unlike with the other claim. The issue was taken care of and we’re happy we have the insurance.

It was summer and the AC stopped working. At first, it wasn't kicking on and then, it was making an odd noise when it tried to kick on. We have three units in the house and I quickly realized which one it was. We shut it off and I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online. The next morning, I got an email saying somebody will get ahold of me within 24 hours. I got that pretty quickly and then, the Budget AC Heating & Plumbing folks contacted me the next morning and came up later that day. They were great, friendly, professional and they figured out the problem and fixed it that same visit. We've had no trouble since.

There was a loud noise coming from my air conditioner that was vibrating the whole house and it was crazy. I made a claim online with AHS and their website was great to navigate through. They then had somebody call me immediately. We set up an appointment, then the technician came out and fixed it. A part of the installation got stuck in one of the motors and he removed that and made sure everything else was working. He was very professional and he was here for half an hour. After the repair, the AC has been working well.

I'm really happy with AHS. My last claim was a pretty easy fix but the warranty is something that everybody should have, especially if they have an older home like mine. They should all have some kind of a home warranty in case things like that happened. I would also recommend for everybody to go with AHS. I trust them and they solved my issue quickly.

However, I had to call their customer service line because I initially thought that my dishwasher was the one that was leaking and that I needed an appliance person. It was actually my sink and I needed a plumber. The phone just rang and rang. I called multiple times and I couldn't get a person. Thankfully I wasn't charged for cancelling one contractor and getting another. The contractors came out the next day and they totally understood what they were here for. They fixed the problem and it was great. American Home Shield gives me great peace of mind and I'm very pleased with my experience with them.

I usually submit my claims with American Home Shield over the phone and their customer service is good. They respond. However, when I called on a Friday, they told me that they couldn't get someone here until Monday. It wasn't an issue at that point because the weather had cooled off, but if the temperature had been 100+, which happens in Arizona, that would have been an issue. AHS sent Sure Temp Air Conditioning and the guy who came out was able to address the problem quickly and efficiently, which was good. I feel good about American Home Shield's service.

My air conditioner had a motor issue. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. The contractor knew that I have a daughter who was slotted for a double lung transplant and so I can't be without air conditioning because it affects her breathing and he came quickly. He had been here before so he was really nice. After the repair, the air conditioner has been excellent and I'm happy.

However, being with AHS is not like calling a repairman and things are done right away. When you submit a claim, it would be another day before you get things done. AHS would send out a repairman and they have your parts on their truck. It has to be submitted for approval which is like one of those things where if it's something that's really necessary, it should be up to the technician's discretion and it should be approved. I also had one claim that AHS had closed, but it has never been fixed. It was regarding my toilet. But because I have a sick daughter, I haven't pursued that. Still, they were supposed to send somebody with a toilet or send me money for it.

Another time when I had the air conditioner motor go out, I kept waiting for them to approve the claim for it. I called the people who were working on it and told them to get me somebody else and then that was when they sent these other people who came the last time. So I just told them that I'll go get the motor and fix it myself. Even so, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield and I've recommended them to other people.

I always had issues with my refrigerator and it would always be the ice maker. American Home Shield sent out a company I was familiar with, Accord Appliance. They handle everything in this area. I told everybody who came out that it was the ice maker and to replace it because I know that refrigerator is a lemon and that's what always go out on it. So, I went through a bunch of stuff where they were gonna replace it. I would talk to the company where the technicians would say they were gonna recommend that and then I would call the company and they would say they were not gonna do that.

I called them about three times after the technician said they were gonna recommend that it be replaced. It was just an on-going saga. Also, Accord Appliance doesn't fix things. They come out with parts that don't work. They make an appointment to come out and do stuff. Then, they would say they couldn't do anything because they have to call the east coast which the other technicians did not have to do and they would say it's already too late to call.

I got to somebody who said they were not gonna replace it for the ice maker. I told AHS to get somebody out here that will replace my ice maker and they did. Also, I told them to not ever send Accord Appliance out to my house again. Accord was terrible. They sent out a whole bunch of different guys and I would start over every time. They just spin their wheels. I had to through a bunch of rigmarole because AHS said it's their company and that's who they send out. But when I insist and have to go through supervisors and keep going up the top the chain to not have them sent out, they do find somebody else. They sent somebody out and they replaced the ice maker after three months.

I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield as my dryer wasn’t drying. It was a very quick turnaround time where they called me back and set up an appointment. Someone came out to the house, checked out the dryer, and they had to order a part. After a week, the part came in, then the technician came and installed it. He also told us that we had to get some other things done to the dryer, like our vents needed to be cleaned. He was very knowledgeable, and he also gave us a recommendation, which was better because I felt like I got two for one.

It was a very easy process. It was a little time-consuming since it got stretched for a couple of weeks just because they didn’t have the part. But it is what it is. I then paid my deductible of $100. My dryer is fine now and I was very happy and satisfied. Also, AHS didn’t charge my account until after the process was completed. I’ve recommended AHS to others before I had a claim out. What I got was for my appliances and major things like air conditioning. That’s the only thing that has ever happened where I’ve had to use my insurance and it worked in my favor and I was impressed with that especially that I don’t have $8,000 sitting in a savings account for the air conditioner. There’s peace of mind.

My AC quit working and American Home Shield sent out Temple to fix it. The men came and took care of the problem. Then about three weeks ago, we realized that the commode in one of the bathrooms was cracked. I called American Home Shield and they sent a contractor. He looked at it and he claimed that we broke the commode ourselves when I actually thought it had been made when it was molded. It just took a number of years where it was leaking under the floor, as we had earthquakes around. Maybe the shaking of an earthquake opened it a little bit to where it started to leak.

AHS would not cover it. I had to go and hire an outside plumber to repair it, which I’m not happy about. I’ve been with them since in the 90s and I’m at the point right now to leave them just because of the commode deal. What they did was not right. Not only that, on my bank statement, I got charged $75 twice and I haven’t called them yet today because I’ve just been busy. At this point, I wouldn’t recommend them to anybody.

My interaction with the first company that I was supposed to have was interrupted because I was hospitalized for a little while. They got in touch with American Home Shield and by the time I got out of the hospital, I tried to get in touch with them, but my case was switched over to another company.

The new company came out briefly and said that they would get back to me. But they never got back to me. I had to call American Home Shield to find out what was going on. I was given the company's number and then I learned that they have referred to American Home Shield since they were unable to find the part. A claim was then made for me to get a new appliance. So now I got a new one, and it’s working great. I enjoy American Home Shield. I’ve had some work done on other things, and they’ve always sent quality people out to do the work. I heard that if you try to call in to American Home Shield, you can never get in so I filed the claim online. Their response time two days, which wasn’t bad. The service from the contractor was below average though.

I don’t know how much he looked at the air conditioner or the furnace, but he came back and said I that needed to change the furnace filter more. I said that I change it every month and I think they do a good job. The repair was basically changing the furnace filter more. I felt that it wasn’t a thorough diagnostic evaluation and I don’t really feel comfortable. I’ve heard that if something is broken, American Home Shield will fix it and they were highly recommended by my boss at work. However, their contractors should check out the furnaces a little bit more and then understand that they’re doing their own analysis to fix the problem.

AHS is a good investment and money well spent. When I submitted a claim for my washer, I received an email correspondence within a couple of hours from the contractor. They let me know when the techs were gonna come out and we got that scheduled. Then they came in and repaired the part that had a problem. After that, the washer was up and running with no issues at all. They were very clean about what they did and very professional. Then, the thermostat was bad on the refrigerator and AHS was super-fast in responding to my claim. I submitted the claim the night before and the guy was at the door first thing in the morning. He came in, looked at it, shut it down for the day, and let it all defrost. The next day, he came in with a thermostat which took him about five minutes to put in. He ensured the product was good and working.

AHS's reps were very professional, courteous, and expedient with what they were doing. All our correspondence was via e-mail but they called me one time on the first claim to get the serial number of my washer. I got it to their rep and she was able to complete the claim and push it forward. The contractors have been very pleasant, punctual, and courteous. They have been very informative as to what they were doing and what they were gonna do. If they made any mess, they cleaned it up. They were very conscious that it wasn’t their house. It was someone else’s and they were gonna take care of it.

I tell others to go for AHS. If I didn't know what was wrong with the refrigerator, I would have gone out to purchase one and that would have been $1,000. The same thing with the washer. The kind I have would have been anywhere from $1,200 to $1,500. Knowing that American Home Shield is there to back me up, I don’t have those worries and I don’t need to throw money away that I don’t need to. You never know when you’re gonna need the warranty but it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

But on the washing machine claim, a part was going to be more expensive than the washer was worth, so it ended up being a situation where AHS offered to replace, but they couldn’t find the replacement that was the right size. They wanted to replace it with a full-sized one which wouldn’t fit into our closet. Trying to call their appliance replacement department is a nightmare. Literally, my average wait time was over an hour. I called them on four separate occasions and it happened each time. Then I finally waited them out and they gave us a credit for purchasing a new washing machine. But it was so painful getting through that process and it took weeks of trying to call them and trying to get them to respond to emails before we finally got any resolution.

The representatives that I spoke with on the phone were good and then third-party people that came out to do the ice maker were great. The guy that came out to do the washing machine was here for 10 minutes, but he did diagnose the problem and then communicated back. Also, there is another problem that we’re waiting on the same refrigerator. We’ve used American Home Shield on a few occasions, and so far, we’ve been pleased with the results. We recently had a claim with them when we had what seemed like an explosion in our oven, and it turned out to be not an explosion. Something was warping a little bit under the heat and it would warp to the point where it would snap, making a loud noise. It sounded more serious but it wasn’t. The repairman just needed to replace that piece of sheet metal. The contractor was very good and helpful. It was the same guy that we had the very first time we used AHS. His demeanor and professionalism were excellent and the problems that we’ve had AHS out for repair have not reoccurred.

The only time we had an issue with any of the technicians was when we have filed a claim for the refrigerator. It took them a long time to complete it because he had to come out three times. The first time he came, he misdiagnosed the issue and did not fix the problem. We had to call him back, which wasn’t a big deal ‘cause it was $75 per incident and everything else is covered by the AHS.

However, the $75 fee is, originally said to be per service call. That was not entirely clear in the way the whole thing was presented. A couple of examples might help in the way they present that particular part of the deal. Initially, we thought that if we made a claim, and then the contractors came out to do something and then the problem reoccurred, we had to pay another $75 fee, which turns out it was not the case. But other than that, we've had a positive experience with American Home Shield.

Our pool equipment was having a couple of different problems. We submitted a claim over the internet with AHS and their website was user-friendly, but it was not very informative. The categories are too broad and their website doesn't show that a particular item is not covered. One time, I filed a claim and paid $125 but when the technician came out, he said that it was not covered. Of course if I went through the policy, I would have confirmed that. But they should have that upfront on their website and I should be able to see it while I'm submitting a claim online. For example, under plumbing, it should say the things that are covered and the exclusions. Whatever is in the contract, that should be on the screen before I hit submit.

For my pool claim, Aqua Pool came out and they did the work quickly. Originally, the repair was not covered but they had it done the last time around. It was easier to schedule with them and they came out within 72 hours. So it took a couple of days to get the pool equipment fixed and so far, everything’s working just fine. I’d recommend getting AHS.

I live in Honolulu, Hawaii where the average temperature is mid to high 80s. Unfortunately, my central AC started raining down on my floor. The local service provider came out in a timely manner to inspect my AC. It turns out that a part was cracked and needed to be replaced. 10 days later, and no one contacting me, the local AC repair company could not locate the part here on island. They asked AHS to supply the part. Over a week later a part was ordered, supposedly. The part was supposed to arrive in Honolulu yesterday after waiting 10 days for it. Lo and behold it did not arrive. I had spoked to an authorization supervisor, Ms. **, previously. She would or could not provide me with a tracking number at that time. She advised me that the AC repair company received that number, which they did not. I was told that I would receive my service charge back for the inconvenience and that was now almost 2 weeks ago, no refund yet.

I have called Ms. ** and left a voicemail a week ago and no response. I am completely disgusted with the lack of "customer service" I have received. Not once has someone from this company reached out to me unless I instigated it. I have spent countless hours waiting on the phone just to speak to someone who can't or won't help me. I will not recommend this company based on the way I have been treated. It's been a month now with no AC and living in a hot climate it can be unbearable. My condo gets up to 89 degrees inside. And no one seems to care at AHS.
