I had an issue with my washing machine, and the technician AHS sent found out that the control switch had fried. It took almost a month to get fixed only because we had to wait on a part to get in and then the hurricane hit and that slowed shipping stuff up. But AHS was great. I'm very happy with them. I had an issue a few years ago where I had a fuse go out. I called them and the contractor came out and fixed it that day. Every time I've had to use AHS. it's been very quick and I'm happy with all my claims. They have been very helpful over the phone.
I ran into an issue somewhere, and I had to resubmit. The first time they didn’t go through I resubmitted. I called and that went through. Most services that I've used were great. They have been very knowledgeable people. AHS is a great service and it has saved me a lot of money so far, even though it's 450 now, but when you're paying $75 for a repair versus $200, $300 or $400.

My AC wasn't turning on and I made a claim at American Home Shield. I scheduled a service online, and a contractor from Hospitality Heating and Air-Conditioning came out. It was the second time I've worked with the tech, and he was very professional and nice. AHS is worth it.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Ursula. We are happy that you are pleased with AHS. Have an amazing week.

My garage door and thermostat got replaced, and I had a very good experience with American Home Shield on both claims. I submitted my claims over the phone, and it was easy but time-consuming. Their reps were courteous, professional, and they answered all my questions. The contractors that were sent out were also professional, on time and they answered my questions as well. They got in and out, and I really liked that. My dishwasher was repaired recently. The rubber part of the dishwasher that goes around that the water goes through into the dishwasher keeps coming apart. It was replaced, but it keeps falling out. I haven't submitted another claim for that because I'm not gonna pay $75 for somebody else to come back out here.

Before signing up with American Home Shield, I did some research because those things make me nervous. There’s a lot of negative stuff out there when you Google it but my brother and his wife used American Home Shield in Atlanta and his wife loved them. She swore by them so I went ahead and did it. In my experience, it’s easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield. The only catch is that the first contractor they will find for us will be in Northern Virginia. And we’re in Central Virginia. But I guess it’s because of where we are located. It’s very strange but this seems to happen even with GEICO Insurance.
I did an electrical claim with them online and when American Home Shield first sent me the email confirmation and the name of the contractor, they were up in Northern Virginia. So I picked up the phone and called. I told them that they've assigned me a contractor that’s two and a half hours away. That was when the representative found MW Butler and they’re like a 15-minute drive. At that time, we had several electrical issues. We had just moved in but the house is 11 years old and everything worked before. But then the back porch light and all of the basement lights went out.
There was also a ground fault receptacle by the front door that needed to be replaced. I had bought the replacement but I didn’t want to install it myself. In addition to that, the ceiling fan in our bedroom was also weird. It would shut off randomly on its own and then one day, the lights came on all by themselves. They would come on, dim, get really bright then dim again. It was like a roller coaster.
As far as the lights in the basement and the back porch, the contractor said the ground and neutral wires were touching. He thought that might have even affected that receptacle by the front door. But he went ahead and changed it out. In that process, the contractor also fixed the post light out of the driveway. It had not been working, even for the house's previous owner, and AHS doesn’t cover those. But whatever the contractor did got it working along with everything else. So the house is weird.
For the ceiling fan, the contractor thought that the problem was the receiver. So he said that I’d need to have a new fan. I called American Home Shield and they set me up to get a new fan. I had Home Depot install it but it started shutting off randomly too. Then at 5 AM one day, the lights came on and we jumped out of bed so fast. Everything’s LED now and those lights are bright. It was like a prison spotlight coming on you and your hands are against the wall. So I called American Home Shield back and they marked it as a recall so I didn’t have to pay again.
They sent the same guy out and he took the ceiling fan down. He also took the switch light cover off but he could not find anything. He said it had to be something in the wiring. But we have a tray ceiling and because of that, you can’t just pull a wire through. He said that the only way to replace the wiring is to tear the ceiling out. I didn’t want to do that. But we don't like lights on ceiling fans anyway so we asked him to take the light bulbs out. We would deal with the fan shutting off randomly, at least for the time being, and if it gets to be a nuisance, I would call it back in. All in all, MW Butler was awesome. We love him to death. In fact, we're telling everybody in the neighborhood that we found a great contractor.
Hi, Cheryl. Thank you for detailing the concerns you had and how our electrician was able to provide a remedy to almost all of those instances. I appreciate your patronage.

I normally call in to submit claims with American Home Shield and oftentimes, I’m on hold anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. The last time I called, I exclaimed, “Wow, I can’t believe somebody answered,” and then they hang up on me. However, I have also spoken with some really good people there, so I've had really great experiences with certain people and then not so much with others. I have a claim still in process for a HVAC situation and a contractor was scheduled but no one showed up. They called an hour and a half after the latest time they were supposed to be there and so hopefully, they would show up. This is the first time something like that happened because our interactions with the technicians who have been out in the past were fine. Nevertheless, I tell friends who ask about American Home Shield that my experiences are a hit or miss.

I usually do my claims with American Home Shield online because it's easy. And when I file an order when I need something, someone would call me within an hour, unless I file my claim at night. When I had problems with my air conditioner, the contractors AHS sent came out and recharged it. They did something upstairs once. I was not really excited about having to get an air conditioner at the time. But it was very good and I didn’t have to pay anything. All of my appliances have gone out. They were all 14 years old.
With my 14-year old hot water heater, the contractor came out and found that heater has water in the pan, which it is not supposed to have. There’s a split somewhere in the inside workings. The heater is still working, but it’s leaking. I’m getting a new one tomorrow and American Home Shield is paying for the heater itself. But since it's an older unit and put in in another time, there are some code issues that they are gonna have to put a quote on and that's gonna cost me. I've had American Home Shield for at least five years and I was thinking about dropping them. But my hot water heater went out so I’m glad I didn’t.

I called American Home Shield first for a maintenance thing. I wanted to see if it was worthy of a claim, and they said that it was and had somebody come out. The first contractor didn't know what was going on. They knew it was something to do with the gas and the furnace, but they weren't given the specifics on it, so they didn't have the equipment to be able to complete the job. I contacted American Home Shield right after they left and they sent somebody out to come and do it. The next contractor came and was able to get it taken care of.

The motor went out in the AC unit and I called in a claim for it. Then I talked to a live agent and told them what my problem was. They're always so nice and very helpful. I've used a particular contractor before, and I tried to get that same company. I checked to see if the company was still doing contracts with American Home Shield, and they were. Then they gave me the number for the contractor and I called and let them know I opened up a claim to have some service done. I love American Home Shield. They do a great job, and every contractor that I used always did well. So I'm pleased.

I called American Home Shield and they arranged to have someone come out. I’ve had three people come out and they’re all very informative and efficient. I’ve learned a little bit about everything that they’re doing so it’s a bonus. The first call was because of a leak around the base of the toilet. The first guy came out and pulled the toilet out and put a new O-ring in. He put several of them in for extra protection, and it worked. He repaired the leak from around, and then he put new caulking in. It was great. However, a couple of days later, I noticed that there was a leak from the tank so I called AHS again. They sent someone else out, and it turned out to be just a loose bolt. When the first guy pulled the toilet out, the bolt from the tank to the rest of the basin got loose and water leaked. He tightened the bolt and everything has worked fine since then. He was very professional and he did the work so quickly.

There have been some instances with the electrician that we haven't been happy with, but with this particular instance, we were happy.

Contractors initially came out for my washing machine and for my refrigerator since the icemaker that's not functioning. They had to come out a second time after the parts came in. The parts on my washing machine were replaced and everything's functioning fine with that. But with the icemaker, the contractor said the wrong part was ordered. He left and he ordered a new part. He finally came back and put the new part in but nothing changed. I still have a broken icemaker.
It takes over an hour to get through to talk to anybody at AHS. I finally got through a few days ago and the gentleman came back again today. But he was here for not even five minutes. He inspected the refrigerator and said he was gonna order another part. This would be the third time he ordered parts. It's not my fault the wrong part got ordered and it may not have been his fault either. But he submitted the request and AHS delivered the wrong part.
If I have to call AHS back and I'd tell them that if the contractor gets the right part, I'd like him to be here as soon as possible. I don’t wanna wait another four weeks before he shows up. I want the part to be delivered quickly. I've been out of ice for three months now. It doesn’t seem like AHS' service is gonna benefit me at all. I had a very disappointing experience with AHS and I'm gonna cancel my service with them. I don't think I need a contract with them. I wouldn't recommend them either.

I made calls to American Home Shield today. Spoke with Jan and Beyoka. Beyoka was rude which she told me that I need to wait 1 hour before she can reschedule another contractor.
Ok correct me if I'm wrong, but it's been already since Wednesday without heat. Now according to their policy I must WAIT another hour for a new contractor because the original one Zone Mech did NOT show up or even call to say anything. Yes I left several message and no return call. When speaking with Customer service Beyoka she states that she will hang up the phone on me because she knows I'm not pleased with not having service and I'm upset. We have been customers of AHS since 2016. They have never covered a single home repair for us. Today we finally canceled our policy. We have been without hot water for 6 days. They sent a plumber out a few days ago who was unable to fix or find a problem and was not able to restore our hot water. We were supposed to hear from AHS or the plumber about next steps, no one ever called or came back out. When we called for the second time since Tuesday and asked they send a different plumber they would only agree to do so if we agreed to pay for it? Why should we pay for it? We don’t even know what’s wrong or if it’s covered yet!
They said they could send out the same plumber again, but we would have to wait until Monday afternoon. We have little kids who need baths and it’s below freezing here in Pennsylvania right now. We canceled our plan and hired a local plumber to come help us. AHS isn’t going to send out a qualified professional to do your home repair in a timely manner and they also aren’t going to cover anything. Save your money and look for a warranty company that isn’t a scam. They took thousands of dollars from us and never covered a single thing.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service Meghan. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

My wife called American Home Shield when our ac stopped blowing cold and they did a good job. They sent a contractor within 24 hours. We’ve used the warranty quite a few times. It has come in real handy. But the contractors that we come across in our area are just lazy and not professional. We’re out in the country a little bit, so there’s less options. There was one instance where we told them that the guy was ridiculous. When my oven broke he had my wife help lift the oven into the spot instead of bringing somebody out to help him. She ended up hurting her back doing that. But the ac has been cool enough after the repair. We called them back, because he was supposed to bring out our refrigerator, and we said he couldn't come back out unless he got help. AHS then called a different company.
Hi, Bryan. I regret to hear that our tech was not prepared to do the work required when servicing your appliances. Thank you for staying vigilant until your concerns were addressed and handled correctly.

The washing machine was making a loud noise and it wasn't working right. We called American Home Shield and they sent Mr. Appliance out but the repair would cost more than a new washing machine so they replaced it. Some of the service people that I get give me my military discounts and everything else. However, I sometimes want to get a certain service person but they don’t work with American Home Shield which was how I ended up with Mr. Appliance versus Maricopa Appliance.
I've had American Home Shield for many years and I have never had a problem. I have two homes underneath them. That's how pleased I am with their service. I talked my neighbor into getting AHS, because I believe in the company. He had a motor going out on his pump and he bought the pool warranty thing. They came out this morning and they replaced the pump. So, if you look at the cost of the pump that they put on there, that service paid for itself. American Home Shield didn't make much money but at least they got another person that'll sign up again because of their service.

The heating element in our microwave burned out. It was the unit that was put in by American Home Shield, got it for us about two years ago. It’s a GE and we’ve had a lot of problems with it. In fact, we’ve had three calls on it this year but they were fixed eventually. One time, we had to wait six weeks for a part but it did get fixed. My claim is usually taken care of very quickly within a day or so. We’ve submitted claims both online and over the phone but we tend to do it more on the phone now because one time we submitted it and then we had somebody come out and they couldn’t fix the problem because it wasn’t covered. If we had talked to someone, they would’ve told us and we wouldn’t have to pay $75 for a visit that we couldn’t even use. That was a disappointment and it soured us on online signing up.
Their reps are very courteous. They usually tell us, “We’ll submit this and you’ll hear within 24 hours.” They get somebody out here very quickly. Sometimes we’ve had to wait to get the problem fixed because of parts, but that’s not really American Home Shield’s problem. The contractors that have come to our home have been very good, except for the one who replaced the microwave a couple years ago. The man did not know how to do it. He tried but he couldn’t figure it out. They had to get somebody else to come and do it. We also had somebody come out for our water heater because it went off and the water got very, very hot before it went off. The man came out, pushed the reset button and said it was okay. He didn’t give us an explanation for that. Nonetheless, our water seems to be hotter now than it was before and it hasn’t gone off again. American Home Shield is a good company to go with.

We had a couple of claims with American Home Shield. The water heater broke and the drains in the bathroom sinks weren’t draining appropriately because the faucets were put in incorrectly. I went online for my claim and the turnaround time was the next day. The contractors, The Lindi Corporation, were great. They were right here in tow. They were fast, efficient, and they gave me all my options. I would highly recommend them. We haven’t had any more issues since the repair.
The only thing with AHS is that where we live, we border on three states. Generally, what they do is they focus on the bigger towns around us which is like an hour away. But when they use smaller corporations like Lindi that are right in town, it makes a difference like when you’re talking to them and how soon they can get out to help you. I’d like to support my local town. Getting contractors from the bigger cities that are around is not always the best. Some of them have actually refused to come up on some other situations we’ve had such as with the garage door and things like that.

There was a 90-degree fitting that started to leak. I called American Home Shield rather than doing the online form so I could request the same company that did a nice job on a plumbing issue I had before. The owner of that small local company came out the last time and was able to resolve the issue. They were still on the list, so I asked for them to come out again.
The leak was on a bar area. So the plumber tore the drywall out under the sink, then they had to tear it out on the bar side facing the living room to get it. The leak was so close to the slab, he wasn't sure he would be able to get it. But he was able to get it fixed. They did a great job, besides having to tear into the wall, which couldn’t be avoided. I just called AHS to have somebody come out and fix it. It’s been two and a half years since we moved in and got AHS. We’ve had some issues and had to make some claims, and every time their contractors come out, it has always been a good experience and everything has been fixed. And, I tell everybody I know about that.

The first time I had a plumbing issue, I suppose I had not read the contract carefully enough ‘cause I called my own plumber, got them to come out here and do all the work. I called AHS and they said that I have to call them first, get it approved, and then they could pay for it. I was a little displeased about that because it was about a $400 plumbing issue that we had inherited from the people that lived here before, and I thought we were definitely covered under that American Home Shield ‘cause it said plumbing. Nobody explained to me in the beginning that I had to have things pre-approved. It was just on a written contract in one of the codicils in there. And ordinarily, you wouldn’t think that that was an issue, but it became one. I don’t mind paying the 75 to have somebody come out and look. But it was taken care of on my dime. So, I felt like I paid for a service that wasn’t made available to me. But it was my bad and I accept responsibility.
So for the latest claim, I called in for pre-approval. Originally, there was a short in an outdoor porch light. Unfortunately, it was much deeper than that so it had had to be replaced so he got a whole new fixture. There was another issue downstairs with the cable television. They arranged Dan’s Electric to come out and the contractor called and said he'd be here the next day. And off he came and things went fine. He was very professional, explained the $75 fee associated very well, which I understood and took care of our interest. And once he looked at the issue downstairs and dissected what was wrong, he was able to make a great recommendation. He was able to replace our fixture out front. Since then, everything has been fine and dandy. Overall, I'm very pleased with American Home Shield's service but I would tell people to make sure they understood all the conditions.

The contractors only do what they're told and they dare not go beyond what the company stands for. So, as far as I'm concerned, they are willing and able, but based on what the company is advocating at that time. There are certain things that American Home Shield can do and will do. But sometimes, they are confusing us to what they want to do or what they will not do. To the consumer, that's always somewhat of an unexplained understanding of what they do or what they want.
Most recently, I had a leak and American Home Shield had it adjusted. But a couple of months ago, I had a problem with my stove. One of the burners was not working well. I had a gentleman come out and he claimed to have fixed it. I gave it some time, but then the stove was still not working properly. I tried to make another claim and requested for someone to come and look at the same situation, and maybe that was my fault. My thoughts were if it still wasn't working, the person should really come out and look at it again. American Home Shield, however, has a cutoff when they won't send anyone anymore to look at the same situation. Now it's a different thing altogether based on the same problem. American Home Shield sometimes gets the job done, but there's a sticky situation that they're still not fully explaining their procedures or policies. But I wouldn't say it's the workers' fault. They are sent to a place and they do what they've gotta do.

There was something wrong with our dryer so we called it in with AHS and they sent a technician the next day to check it out. It needed some kind of part and it took them another 3 days to get the part. The whole thing took around five days. But sometimes, you get somebody to come repair it the same day. After they fixed things it has been good. But if somebody would ask me about AHS I would tell them it's okay but it’s not the best.

I just bought the house in August and my Realtor gave a list of ones that her clients used, and I chose American Home Shield. I've been with them for a few months and the first experience I had was positive. There was something going on with our air conditioner. We called them and filed a claim. My fiancé dealt with the repair company and he was pleased. They had to come back with a part and the whole claim was completed in seven days. We had the day-to-day operations fixed by using fans while the air conditioner was being repaired where it wasn’t a big deal. I was pleased with the amount of time it took.

I did my first claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the problem got repaired hastily. The technician was real professional. Then the last time I sent in a claim, I did it online. American Home Shield's site was pretty easy to use. There were just five things I had to click on, and it took less than a couple of minutes. The tech that came out for my swimming pool was professional as well. It took a couple of visits to solve the problem. He had to replace the whole unit, so it wasn’t something he was expecting based on the description I gave. I just put down it was a leak. So he had to come back in a few days and had the pump replaced, and it's been working good ever since. My experiences with American Home Shield have been great.

Our AC does not work properly when it gets really hot in the summer. I called American Home Shield for it, but I wasn’t happy with the guys that came out. There were two older guys and I was afraid they were gonna hurt themselves at my house ‘cause they were so old. They were nice enough, but I wouldn’t use them again. One of them checked my Freon, then he puts his hand over the register and said it was working. But it wasn’t anything to do with the Freon. The weather was just not hot enough. And my heater is working great, so we’ll see what happens with the AC next summer. The guy also said that it was an old house, so he suggested to just sell it and get a new one. I called AHS back and their rep said that they would remove the charge, which they did. So I was happy with that.
Hi, Barbara. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Glad to know the heat is working as it should be.

My house is 17 years old, so there's always something going wrong with it. So far, my warranty with American Home Shield seems like a good thing for me. I recently used their service when i had a plumbing issue. I have two hot water heaters and in both of them, the power had gone out. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield then I talked to the contractor, Lindsey Plumbing Company. They called and set up an appointment. Then they came out and fixed the problem. I have used them before, so I kinda know their guys and they were good.
Shortly after that, I started having water coming out of the overflow in one of the hot water heaters. So, they came out again. They said that that was not related to the other thing but they fixed that also. Then today, I realized that there's water coming out of the overflow again and I assume it's the second hot water heater. So, they're supposed to come out. I put it in as a recall because I wasn’t sure and we'll figure it out when they get here.

The burner was not turning on on our oven and we couldn’t get any heat. Also, our dryer was too hot. This was our first claim with American Home Shield and I was quite pleased with it. I've worked with the folks from One Source that did the work before. So we were familiar with each other and that made it easier. Also, they were able to juggle their schedule because my wife and I work out of the house quite a bit and they were able to come in and do the first visit. They were very flexible to get here when we needed them and that was quite nice as well. They had to order parts and then they came back with the correct parts. We were hoping for a new oven but that was silly because it was just a component that was easily fixed. It took a week and everything seems to be working just fine.

The icemaker froze up on me. I kept on cleaning and it would come back again and again. That thing had to be replaced. AHS sent Kingston Refrigeration out. They were very efficient, very professional and very nice people. They ordered the part, came in and replaced it. But one thing about American Home Shield's system that needs to work better is when you call in to talk to somebody. That takes over an hour and a half and then when we get somebody they would say, “Our computers are down. We can’t help you," or sometimes, “You have to call back again tomorrow.” So you end up holding for nothing.
The only thing I work on is requesting online for an appointment, for somebody to call me, to come in and check something out. Otherwise, there’s no use to talk to anybody there. You can’t get through. Usually, within 24 hours, whoever they assign call me and try to set up. Their contractors were always very pleasant. I haven't had any problem with any of them. Their very professional, very efficient and they solve the problem. I'm very satisfied with AHS.

American Home Shield sent Bue Star Plumbing of Rowlett, TX when I made a claim for a cracked tank on the toilet. Dane and Brady, told me in their experience American Home Shield wouldn’t cover cracked tanks and then reported to the home warranty company in their experience porcelain doesn’t just crack on its own, in spite of the fact that there was no evidence of misuse, so that the warranty would not cover the replacement in hopes of making more money independently. Tanks are covered under the warranty I purchased. This is the second plumbing service that has attempted to make more money by bypassing the warranty company they have sent, these were different incidents. I know 3 master plumbers so I know what is needed before calling for warranty services.
I called to complain. The first representative I could not understand due to the accent and I requested another representative and was placed back on a long hold. The second representative wanted me to pay for a second opinion. I was placed on a half hour hold waiting for a supervisor who agreed to send another company, who did not call as promised, and waive the fee. If they are not going to cover tanks they shouldn’t send out service that they expect to be paid a service fee or put it in the contract they are covered. I have wasted several hours resolving this and am still waiting on a resolution.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield can sometimes be a pain. It’s relatively easy to submit it online, but they may not always have the right description of the issue for you to select. However, I understand that there are so many issues that could go wrong and generally, they let you know whether the issue is covered or not. The contractors have been good. I've had more trouble with American Home Shield than with anything else and that is with respect to satisfying what I thought the contract said versus what the fine print may say.
An example would be a dryer that went bad. They sent a contractor out here and he spent three hours troubleshooting the dryer and finding out what the issue was. He then had to submit it back to American Home Shield. Unfortunately, there's a delay between their submissions to American Home Shield and their response back to me on what’s gonna be done. After four days, they said they can't fix the dryer so the were going to replace it. I then had to call another number to pick a dryer. They had a list of dryers for me to pick from and I had to spend quite a bit of time on the phone either way waiting 20-30 minutes each time and basically just have them call me back.
But the company they contracted with for the dryer could only deliver it. They didn’t have a person that could do the installation so I had to find my own person to do the installation, which is not right. American Home Shield should have done that. We went through three e-mails and insisted that they need to find someone but they never did. They never reported back until I called them the day before the dryer was gonna be delivered and they didn’t have anyone. So we went round and round about how much it was gonna cost and it was more than the amount that they allocated. I even had to get a written quote and submit it to them on what it was gonna cost. It then had to be escalated for approval, but they did approve it on the same day, which very much surprised me.
American Home Shield has fixed things, but they always try to do two or three fixes with $100 per episode and before they finally say they can’t get it fixed right, replacing it is the last thing that they wanna do. In addition, when they do fixes, you have to block out a four-hour window and then you have to be there for the guy and you have to be there while they’re working on it. We went with American Home Shield because we got a good price on it. But our initial experience started sour and then we found out what they didn’t tell us - that you have to buy additional coverage to cover things that aren’t covered. We thought we got everything covered 100% but it ended up not true.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I contacted my local AHS rep to make sure that it went smoothly. They did come out but they rejected the claim that it was a result of the part being replaced. It was not covered and it would have to be out of pocket. So I'm having to live with it until I get the money to take care of it.
I had a garage door call which was a couple of months ago and that was denied too. I'm paying over $800 a year for a townhouse and that seems to be really high. I used to sell American Home Shield for six years and know the initial cost is $450, so I'm paying almost twice that amount I'm paying for a small townhouse. I have American Home Shield at two of my condos, one in Pennsylvania and one in New Jersey. I've used them for about 15 years. I had another company in New Jersey prior to AHS. It was very good but they went out of business. I had to change and I went over to AHS. Every time someone comes into New Jersey, and they give me a price for the repair, I go to my own contractor and it's the same price as AHS. And they give me the payout. I wrote to them and they never answered me. I couldn't get a price that includes the equipment that is the same as their contractor where AHS supplies the equipment. It happened once in Pennsylvania, and it happened three times in New Jersey, where I took the payout, rather than hire their contractor, and it wounded up being less expensive by taking the payout, by the amount of it.
To do an air conditioner repair in New Jersey, I paid about $1,900. That was exactly what their contractor requested and yet, AHS gave me the payout for what the cost would have been. I couldn't understand how that could be the same. And they're supposed to be protecting me as a customer. The amount they paid me is how much I saved because I've been using their contractor. Then it came to the heating and I did the same thing because it just didn't make sense how their contractor was charging me as if I was just their regular customer, and yet, they got all the equipment. They should know the retail cost. Their contractors kept charging me the retail cost and yet they're still getting paid from AHS.
The service department is good. They tried to help, but they're an employee. They don't have any authorization to do anything other than that. Every department is different. When I talked to them, they sent me over to the payout section, and then they calculate if I didn't do the service, how much they would pay out. And that's it. Everyone you talk to is nice. It's just that no one has answered that question to me on how that can happen. I'm satisfied at some point and dissatisfied naturally when there's a major repair. You expect a company like American Home Shield to watch out for their clients. And needless to say, the clients are getting ripped off. I still get the repair and I get it less expensive than going through them, which to me, doesn't make sense. I also don't think their monthly premium is outrageous, but you have to get something for your money.

The dishwasher that came with the house when we bought it stopped working. I saw that my American Home Shield warranty covered it, so I filed a claim for it on their website. Since I work in IT, submitting online was easier for me. I then received a call for clarifications. Everything went well when the tech came out and tried to diagnose and fix the dishwasher.
We were without a dishwasher for a whole month. It took a bit of time getting the entire situation resolved because they had to order a part and then it came back that that part doesn't exist anymore. We had to go through the whole replacement thing. Although it took a while, the experience actually turned out pretty painless. The rep from AHS sent us a link with comparable dishwashers and also told us that if we wanted a nicer dishwasher, we could pay a little extra, and they would cover the cost of what the equal value of the dishwasher was. We just paid a little more on top to get what we wanted. The amount of coverage that AHS provided was fair. They gave me the value of the dishwasher like as if it was new. So, I was very happy with that.
Hi, Kevin. We appreciate your patience with the service request process and are pleased to know that the replacement went as smoothly as it should have. Thank you for your patronage!

He introduced himself when he came in and was very friendly. I showed him where the garage door motor box was and I had a ladder handy, so he got right up there. He took the motor box shell off, looked inside, and described what was going on. He knew what the problem was and said that he got the part.
He went down the driveway to the truck, picked up the part, came in there, and replaced it. He got the garage door running and it took less than 10 minutes. He also did some maintenance on the garage door as an extra. He sprayed some WD-40 on some chains and garage rails. He said that it was needed and that I should periodically do the oiling and greasing of the chain. I was very happy with him. He was pretty fast, efficient, and his professionalism was right up there. And since the repair, the performance of the garage door has been fabulous. I have three contracts with American Home Shield and it gets really crazy sometimes with some of the contractors. Once, I called American Home Shield up and set up for a technician to come, and the representative sent out Sears for me. That was interesting. The dude looked at the stove and he was not a real friendly dude. He was just okay. He decided that I needed a part and he went ahead and ordered it. He had the part delivered to me and then he was coming back to install it. But something alerted me that I was gonna have to be paying Sears maybe for the part. So I called American Home Shield to find out what the confusion was. I let them know that I wasn’t gonna pay for the part because it comes with the agreement that I have with American Home Shield. A different person came back and put the part in, and everything was great.
On the other hand, American Home Shield's phone system aggravates me the most. It takes forever to get into the system and talk to somebody. I'm an older person and I don’t want to deal with the computers. I'm the old-fashioned way. I just wanna call up and say, "Okay, I need help. Thank you." We just took out our American Home Shield policy and we called them for the first time for our air conditioner. It was freezing up. The whole system was a chunk of ice. AHS then set everything up and their contractor was out here very fast. We called on a Friday, and we had someone out here by Monday or Tuesday. The techs did a good job and our dealings were very professional.
Actually, we had our local contractor look at it before we filed the claim because we didn’t know how long it would take us to work with AHS. We figured that if it would be a $75 or $100 fix, we would just pay out of pocket and not worry about going through AHS. Our contractor diagnosed the issue as a leaky valve and he told us it was gonna be upwards of $600 to have it fixed. And that was more than what we wanna pay out of pocket, since we have the AHS policy.
So when the contractor showed up, I told them what the previous technician had told us. Then they looked at everything and said that that sounded right for what they were seeing. And then, they had to come back a second time because they didn’t know if there was an air bubble on the line so they added a little more coolant just to top it off. They came the very next day and what they did seemed to take care of the problem. And so, we were very satisfied with our AHS experience. I wished I had known they were gonna be so easy to work with. I would have never called back our other guy to begin with. Everyone should get AHS.

The power went out on our ground floor and we couldn’t find a breaker for it to fix it. We’ve got a lot of breaker boxes in the house and when Rush’s Repair Service came out, it took the technician a while to figure out that it was actually the next outlet. It was working so we hadn’t looked at it. But when it got down to it, it was the next outlet. He was exceptionally good and that was one of our more positive experiences with American Home Shield. But we've had them ever since we bought the house in 2011 and that is not always the case.
We’ve had very poor luck with a couple of the contractors. There was one who would walk in the door saying, “Of course, you’re gonna have to pay extra for that.” I reported that to American Home Shield. Plus the next they said they were sending that particular vendor, I told them it was not acceptable because all he does is tell us that we have to buy something that’s gonna cost us money. And American Home Shield sent somebody else.
We have air conditioning systems that were put in after Hurricane Hugo in 1989. They’re early ‘90s versions and that was when a lot of fly-by-night companies came in. So the vents and the sizing weren't done correctly. But that’s what we have and contractors have been out a number of times because the air conditioners don’t keep working.
For instance, with the one for the main floor, the breaker box goes off three times a day. Their solution to that was to send somebody to drain out the Freon and put in a new batch. But that doesn’t really fix the problem. And actually, Rush looked at it for us while he was there because it was an electrical issue and he said it definitely is not. I asked if we could upgrade the breaker and he said that it was against code to put in a bigger breaker for that and that something really need to be done about the air conditioner. But American Home Shield just wants to keep fixing what’s in there and not put in the new ones. At $75 a pop for us, sometimes it’s a Band-Aid. Sometimes, it’s actually fixed. But if it comes right down to it, they replace the unit in kind.
When our water heater broke on the second floor, American Home Shield replaced that. When the water heater broke on the ground floor, they replaced that as well. But they brought something that wasn’t a replacement. It was smaller. So they went back and got the bigger size. But if I hadn’t recognized that it was a smaller size and not in kind, they would have installed the smaller one. So you have to be alert as to what’s going on. You have to be sure yourself that it’s in kind.
We also did a claim for the bathroom faucet. But because the previous owners had put in very high-end bathroom faucets, you could not get replacement parts anymore. And American Home Shield paid exactly what they had told us they would pay, the maximum amount. We’ve got another one going through the process now. It's for the ice maker. Again, it was higher-end than they could normally get so they told us to do it ourselves, which we did.

I had submitted that claim over the phone and the contractor came out the week after, when it was better suitable for me. They could’ve come quicker but it wasn’t good for me. Prior to the visit, the technician called me and let me know he’d be there at a certain time, and he was. He told me who he was and he asked me what kind of problem I had. Then he went through and found the problem. He knew his job. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I love American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

My washing machine broke down and according to the technician the transmission broke and when I called to follow up with AHS I was told that the technician's report was due to overloading the washer. How can you overload when you know that it will not be a clean load and the machine will hardly spin.
A second technician came out to do a second opinion and I was also told the same thing. AHS refuses to replace or repair the unit. So, what good is the contract for? Aside, from paying the policy you still have to pay $75 for the tech to come out. I will just purchase a new washer and a warranty with it. They are getting worst through the years. They are only good for the first year! They are nothing, but a referral company... I can just Google for that and not have to pay for the contract. Do yourself a favor and just save up the money.

Past 2 weeks have been a disastrous nightmare because my husband and I have spent a ton of time on phone and chat with AHS agents to schedule someone to INSTALL the washer and HAUL the old one. What do we get?
They keep scheduling vendor after vendor who only fix washers and not install them! I have taken time off of work to wait for a Sears service person only to know he doesn't install! AHS also hooked me up with a provider far far away who is not even willing to service my area! They run a clown show over there! I have saved all my chat transcripts where you can clearly see that the agents confirm that the provider will install and haul the old one! But it's not the case! They think customers are some kind of a joke... You can never get hold of a supervisor. (I wonder if there is one!) The agents are 0% knowledgeable and doesn't care to look at our contract! Worst service ever! Save yourself from being burnt out and invest in a good local service person!
Good morning Rukmani,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience to have the washer machine replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and get the repairs resolved.

Updated on 12/20/2018: I had already written a complaint in mid-November. After sending a guy out to look at unit not working and him giving us a very high quote and putting on his invoice slip $800 from AHS they refused to pay. They said something about ductwork was not correct. AHS had been repairing the unit off and on for 20 years and never a mention about a duct work issue.
After I wrote complaint someone from the "social media specialists" team called me. We played phone tag 2x with each other. In the meantime we had unit repaired by someone who came in $3000 cheaper than their guy. She finally got up with my husband on 12/12/18. She told him at that time they were going to take care of us. She asked us to send invoice. I sent invoice, slip of ownership of warranty and original slip from their guy with it written on it AHS will pay... That was over a week ago. I have called her 5 times, if not more, immediately goes to voicemail. I have emailed several times. No response. Why did she even bother reaching out to us???
Original Review: We have used AHS going on 2 decades. We have had numerous issues over the years from 17 days to repair our clothing washer, refusal to repair our refrigerator (they finally did but it took a forever fight), holds on customer service line for over 20 minutes, no call backs once voicemails are left just for example. Our most recent was our air/heating unit broke after 20 plus years. They sent someone out and he came up with a new unit for $7,456 or fix it if he could get parts for $800. After googling average cost of repairs we got estimates and had someone quite a bit cheaper repair. I called AHS and after 3 phone calls of on hold for 15-20 minutes I finally called the "sales line". Well they answer in one ring no lie. He gave me a different # to call as he couldn't help me. I was on hold again 12 minutes. Spoke to the girl said we already replaced and she said not a problem to cut us a check for $800 once she got their repair guys estimate.
Within a day or so my husband got a call we didn't qualify for $800 due to some duct-work issue. I called and sure enough duct-work issue. I said funny you all have been out to work on this unit 3-4 times over the 20 years and no one ever mentioned that was a problem. Well she "couldn't help that". Well I said, "Cancel my contract. Send me a email or something in writing or give me a cancel # I can refer to that we cancelled." She "couldn't provide any of that". You are kidding me!!! I am contacting my wonderful bank who make sure they are blocked from charging me another dime. Oh she did offer if I disputed we could pay another $80 service call to get a 2nd opinion. Thanks but NO. Done with them forever for sure.
Good morning Molly,
I most certainly understand your experience to have the air conditioner system repaired through your warranty with American Home Shield. As a customer for 20 plus years your frustration is deeply understood. I would be glad to speak with you and address your experience.

I have had several calls this first year in my new to me home. On 10/29/18 I needed my furnace looked at. The contractor was quick to respond and tried a couple different things then found a heat Pak was burned completely thru. My furnace is 23 years old and the part is obsolete. Now because I thought I was covered, and because AHS covered this older furnace... I have to have a new furnace and will cost me $1100 out of pocket. Not Cool. I have been jerked around for almost a month now with no heat... Never a call back unless I initiated it and today I lost my patience...and got a call telling me how much money that I don't have. I will need to keep my children warm. Shouldn't let people think they are covered when if they have an older home. They are not!

There was a problem with our shower recently. Instead of filing a claim online, I called American Home Shield to submit a claim because there's one plumber I don’t like and I wanted to make sure I didn’t get him. Submitting a claim was easy. The plumber they contracted called me thereafter, set up an appointment and everything went well. Apparently, we just had a clog. He fixed that and was done and out of there within five minutes. It was easy. Now, the water comes out so we can shower. We've had American Home Shield for about 10 plus years and we've had several things fixed. I would recommend AHS to anybody.

A couple of my vents weren’t blowing strong enough, so Hospitality came and checked it out. The contractor was very professional and timely, and he did the job. The issue was more of a setting, and the guy showed me how to adjust the settings on the unit in the attic. I usually submit the claim to American Home Shield online. Doing it that way is simple, and I can do it at work -- I don’t have a very strong cell phone signal at work. It is my second year with American Home Shield already and they are more cost-effective than the previous company I had. Their rates are pretty reasonable, too.

Our refrigerator quit working so I filed a claim online and hadn't heard anything so I called AHS up. The company that was supposed to contact me had some issue. But I was satisfied with the way things came out. The reps knew what they were doing and took care of the problem. They sent out ABC, who determined it was the control board, so they had to order that. That was the bad part because we had to wait for that to get here. So we were without a refrigerator for quite some time. But the part came and they installed it. Now, we're back in business. The quality of the repairs was excellent.

The contractor AHS sent helped me locate the problem and I’m perfectly happy. But he had to go away because he had another call and we hadn't clearly identified where the hole was yet. So I cut the wall out where we anticipated the leak was, which I was a little surprised by that. I thought maybe that was something he would do. That same day he came back and repaired the leak but he hasn’t repaired the wall.
The wall is not repaired yet and nobody’s following up with me from American Home Shield. Also it took three days for the contractor to come out. It was a pretty steady leak, and it was one that I couldn't turn on, so I was a little disappointed in that. But other than that, submitting a claim with AHS has always been super easy. I just go online and tell them I have a problem and I get a call within 20 minutes.

He didn’t know that A&E hadn’t contacted me and he said that they were supposed to, so I never knew if it was just an oversight on someone’s part. Other than that, the work that he did was great. When our light no longer worked, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online because if you call them, you would be on the phone for 45 minutes. The hold times are super long and it almost makes me want to terminate them. I also wish I could tell them online when I find some contractor that I don’t want to be paired with without calling. Their plumbing contractor was horrible and I’ve had them put on my file not to send them anymore. AHS doesn’t have a way to make sure it doesn’t and the only way I can get a different one is if I call in because they were probably right-left busy. So, they always get assigned to my account, and I don’t like them. On the other hand, the contractor for the light was absolutely wonderful and I couldn't have picked a better one. Sometimes with the warranty service, I have to go with whoever is on their list but this one would've been on my list if I could’ve picked my own. They were fantastic and responsive.

I opened the ticket on a Saturday, so the process didn't start until Monday, and the issue was resolved within four days. They contacted the plumbing company, who then contacted us fairly quickly and came out to fix the issue. And then, our experience with the contractor was topnotch. They came in, introduced themselves, assessed the situation and told us exactly what they needed to fix. They fixed the valve and then, since they were already here, they asked if we had any other issues with plumbing and said it wouldn't cost us any extra to have them fix them. We didn't have anything else for them to fix, but it was nice for them to offer.

Time is more valuable than money, and people don’t have time to sit there waiting for prompts. It drives me crazy. Other than that, they’re okay. It would take AHS less than 24 hours to send someone out to our home and that's pretty prompt. We had a check valve that was leaking. The contractor fixed it, but it leaked again. The guy who repaired it did a decent job. But I guess he didn’t check it out when he left. Nevertheless, he came back and it was fine. The contractor did his job and he was very good. The company they used send a plumber that was on the phone the ten minutes he was at my house to say that I had to put caulking on my sink. There were 2 different leaks coming from the valve and the faucet. I called customer service for a go back. They decided to send another company. The second plumbing company came over and confirmed what I knew that besides having to caulk my sink I had 2 leaks and also 1 leak from the faucet.
The plumber tried getting approval and could not reach the approval department. I been waiting since Saturday 11/17/2018. Today is 11/20/2018 and I'm told I'm denied services because the tech only found a problem with my faucet that needs to be re-caulked. Our heat has been out over a week. AAction Air (should be A Inaction Air) was scheduled for last Thursday morning. They called last Thursday to say their technician called out sick and that they couldn't get to us until after Thanksgiving. We pitched a fit so they scheduled it for Tuesday. I called AHS to see if they could choose a different company to complete the repairs earlier. That took an hour of my time on the phone (very difficult to reach someone at AHS) with no result.
So today the HVAC tech comes and tells us we need some sort of board and that it will of course be next week before they can get it unless AHS authorizes the part order to be expedited. I immediately got on the phone with AHS since I knew I would be on hold for a very long time. In the meantime the technician said he would put the diagnosis in to his office from his truck. He did it. I got through to someone at AHS and she said she would check into it. I was on hold for 39 minutes and then the call was disconnected. They never called me back. So I called again. This call lasted over an hour and in the end nothing has changed.
I was told that they had to wait for a report from AAction Air before they could send it to their expedite people. I asked AHS to be proactive and call their contractor to get the ball rolling. NO... As a way of keeping my business at the end of my contract last year they offered me a free service call on each of my accounts. Every time I call in a service call they can’t seem to find their notes concerning this and they transfer me around to several different departments and they never seem to find the notes for these free service calls.
I know the free service calls exists on my account because at one time the rep found them when I called in on a separate item concerning a recall on a service. If you decide to do business with this company you need to understand that you will wait on their phone lines a minimum of 30 minutes to be able to talk to a customer service rep. You also need to know if you are in a smaller service market they have very service contractors in your area and it’s difficult for them to get contractors to travel the distance to do repairs.
AHS is currently trying to bill me for a service call from one of their contractors that wouldn’t come out to service my oil furnace. The service call supposedly happened in September of last year and they are now billing me for it. Supposedly they were billed for it in May 2018 from a September 2017 service call. They approved an outside vendor to repair the furnace and a service fee was deducted for that service and they are trying to make me pay for the other one. I have never done business with a company that is ran so poorly. Their customer service is terrible and your wait times to even try to get a resolution are lengthy. I’ve never been able to get resolutions to my problems. Not sure why I’ve stayed this long with them but customer loyalty means nothing to them. Their customer service has declined greatly in the last year. I would never recommend this business!

Our hot water heater had gone out on a Saturday morning. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and the process was fine. They used Prime Plumbing. We called David immediately and he said they'll get it taken care of through home warranty. Then he called us back and said the soonest they can send somebody out is on a Monday. So we went the whole weekend without hot water, and there are two minor children and an elderly senior citizen who live in the house. The person came out on Monday at the agreed scheduled time, between 9:00 and 11:00, but was not prepared to fix the hot water heater. He just came to look and see what we needed. We knew we needed a new hot water heater. The guy wrote up an estimate, sent that back to AHS, and then they called later and said there are some things that they won't cover. The bill was over $1,700.
What they wanted us to come out of pocket was probably about $600 or $700. We called David again and he disagreed to that. That Monday night, we had a brand new hot water heater in here. So we just totally bypassed American Home Shield. It was not the first time that has happened. It happened with the air conditioning system. Now, we had never heard this from AHS, but we heard it from the people that had come out to service the air conditioner, that there was money that was gonna be owed by us and we said, "No."
The purpose of the home warranty is we pay the $75 deductible which we have no problem paying and then AHS was supposed to pick up the rest. The company was trying to scam us because we’ve never heard another word about it. And AHS never said anything about them. Then the next person came out and we thought he was here to fix it but it took four times to finally get somebody out here to fix it. They were coming up with parts for the water heater that don’t even exist. They even said we needed an expansion tank. But all we needed was a hot water heater put in and David took care of it. Other than that, AHS has been doing the best they can with who they have to work with. I am satisfied with some of the people AHS sends out but not so thrilled with the others.

Our garage door opener stopped working. I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. The company that came was able to fix the issue and the garage door opener is now working great. I wouldn't not have American Home Shield. I've already referred them to my neighbors and they've all gotten them.

At the end of the summer, my washer went out and I needed for someone to fix it. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and it was quick and easy. However, it started out to be a problem. The first one never answered their phone and I was told that they would call me some time but they never did. I would never deal with those vendors anymore. I called back AHS and one of the ladies stayed on the phone with me until everything was resolved with the first vendor. She would not get off the phone and called from one place to another and made sure that everything was happening in a decent order. Once she got off the phone, it wasn’t even 45 minutes before that vendor showed up at my house. The second contractor was very professional and very timely.
The tech got it resolved in one visit. My washer was not repairable and he sent out the paperwork in a timely manner. I ended up getting a replacement washer. They told me that it would take two weeks, but I had two choices. They told me that if I ordered the washer over the internet, it would take three days. But the washer that they had on the internet, I found for half the price at Best Buy, so I went and bought one and they refunded my money in two weeks. Their customer service was very professional in dealing with that. I have recommended AHS and I’m telling everybody I know that wants to get something done or wants one of those companies because there are a lot of them out there and American Home Shield is second to none.

The air conditioning wasn’t blowing cold air and at the time, it was easier to submit a claim online to American Home Shield. They sent someone who was a short time out and I had to call AHS back. They were responsive and got the people on the phone. Everything happened the way it was supposed to. AHS is the greatest service around and I will never not have them. I didn't even know it existed.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield for a leak under the drain of our bathroom sink and they were supposed to come out this Tuesday, for their third attempt, to try to fix it. They can't seem to get it completely sealed so they ended up changing out the whole faucet. But they didn't properly seal it with the new gasket 'cause it still had to connect the old part of the sink to the new piece which still had the leak right where they were connected.
I've submitted claims with AHS both online and by phone but talking to somebody is better for me. Filing a claim online is not the best 'cause it's not very personal and it takes a while to go through that process. Also, it takes two, three or four days for some of the vendors to contact me. I was told 24 hours and that was not necessarily the case but some of them respond a little faster.

It's easy to submit claims with American Home Shield. I call them and then they send up the work order. They find the company that’s in my area and then they send someone out. That somebody may come out or call that same day or call the following day. So far, the people that came out have been fine. I had a garage issue that AHS didn’t fix. They said it wasn’t covered under the warranty. Other than that, the small repairs that they've done were all good.

Alpha Appliances came through AHS and then they sent the report of the stove. They couldn’t get the part so I ended up calling American Home Shield and they sent me a new stove out. I had to pay to have it put in because Alpha said they didn’t install. So I just went ahead and paid to have it installed and I’m good with that. Alpha came and did some other stuff here. They’re a real reputable company. They show up on time and they do what they need to do.
AHS can open up more telephone lines. I had a very hard time getting through. I call them and I’m on the phone for 10 minutes just listening to a recording and then finally something says, “If you want us to call you back, we’ll call you back.” And then, they normally call back within two to three hours but you gotta be by your phone. Nonetheless, I would recommend AHS highly.

Everything has been great with American Home Shield. Every time I’ve used the service, it’s pretty quick. The longest we’ve waited for our turnaround was a week and that was just ‘cause they had to order parts. It’s worth the money. Making a claim was a pretty simple process. I just went online, put in a claim and then the repair guy came out within 48 hours. The website is user-friendly and easy to use. Also, the repair guy was awesome. Even though it turned out that nothing was wrong, he showed us why the refrigerator was acting like it did. He took time to explain how to take apart the freezer drawer and clean it out. He was very helpful.

I had been with TotalProtect for years but it seemed like every time I called up, it was waiting and waiting. Then they would send out different companies every time and it seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing. One company showed up and they weren’t even dressed professionally. I was really concerned about having them in my home. I didn’t know where TotalProtect got those guys. On top of that, TotalProtect replaced our original stuff, our good stuff, with the bottom-of-the-line junk. Then we had been flooded out and we had the house redone. So I decided to switch. I asked my neighbor how American Home Shield was and he said he had no problems at all. And this is the one to go with.
When we were having some air conditioning problems, American Home Shield sent a contractor out and the man was really nice. The contractor called me back within an hour or so after I had called and put in the claim. Then they kept calling me back. The technician also texted me when he was coming and he showed up right on time. I already had everything fixed for him to be able to get in the attic and he found the problem. The only difficulty he had was that he had to replace some wiring and some parts that were in the attic.
Initially, he replaced some little part then the air conditioner was supposed to work. But then it burned up immediately. He said that something was wrong with the wiring. The wiring was running all underneath the floor in the attic and he couldn't believe the wire system up there. It was so old and it had been crimped. He completely rewired it then he got another part and replaced it. While he was here, the neighbor also came over and the contractor remembered him. He had done work for the neighbor too. He was real friendly and I was very pleased.
The same air conditioning company even called me last week but was calling me a different name. I told him that I had gotten his text message that he was coming out but that I didn't make a call. He gave me the address and it was my dad's. I had sold the house a couple of months back and they went with American Home Shield as well. I think when we were first lining it up, they had my phone number connected with it. But I was able to steer him in the right direction. So it was the same company that was going out to my dad's former home so I know they're getting good service. I know they are pleased with American Home Shield too. In fact, I haven't heard of anyone that has said anything bad against the company. So I feel good about that.

But so far, all those people that came did a good job. This is the second time Tom came to our residence. The first one was for the fridge. He’s from GE and he’s a nice guy. The service has been quick and I appreciate it. So far, everything is doing good since the repair. We bought a home recently that included American Home Shield, immediately saw the reviews on ConsumerAffairs and Facebook under "community" postings were very unfavorable. The only way it seems to be heard is here, to have AHS respond, so we are doing it now. As new customers, what we realize is the company seems to have gone downhill rapidly. First, we tried to get on the phone with the company last week and it didn't work, were on hold several times to no avail. Then, when we went on a chat with AHS on Friday afternoon, things were better but a lady named Michelle assigned us contractors. Then, when going online to check the account all weekend, it was down, couldn't call as it gave an error message and said they had "Technical difficulties" and then the chat didn't work at all.
Got online today to check the assigned contractors, as we had not made any appointments yet. Two of the five didn't have any good comments from anyone, on BBB, ConsumerAffairs, or on Angie's List, Google, or Yelp. Decided to make a change to those two, one would not let us delete the service call or change it. Went on chat, finally got that done, but the chat host told me I could not insist on a different contractor because they "don't base their contractor list on reviews of any kind" - how stupid is that? I got told that by three people via customer service chat too, since chats kept getting cut off and nobody seems to care that you have to go back in the hold queue for talking to someone in some fashion.
Got the assignments with better vendors, I think, but then the entire list disappeared, and yet, my payments pending with the contractors originally assigned last Friday ALL show up! So, am I going to be charged for those, even though I never even made appointments? Some people are complaining on Facebook that this happened to them. And, one vendor, a keying company, said they'd already made the appointment with me, even though they were the one company who never called me back today. How strange! Got the keying company changed, got the HVAC changed, got the plumbing changed twice because the second company called and said, "Listen, we won't do more than one item at your home at one time, not more than one faucet or one toilet". And, he claimed he could only see one item on the list, so are they all going to do this?
I cannot see my account in detail for appointments or assigned contractors. I can only see the bogus pending charges for the five contractors assigned last Friday and I've put all on the 15-day hold. Beyond that, nobody was available for the site all weekend, nothing seems to be updated at all. I need assistance and the company needs to assure me there will be zero surprises this week and beyond with billing, who is coming, and what they are fixing when they do come. I have been told online with the chat people that they have "put those through to dispatch" but who knows? I am surprised this company can stay in business this way, really. Very sad and scary.

Every call to American Home Shield is a minimum of an hour long wait to talk to a customer service rep. Today, after one hour and forty five minutes I was disconnected! They need to have a dedicated phone line option for customers with existing issues. You should be able to leave a call back number if their wait time is going to be ridiculously long. They sent an incomplete work order to the vendor which will affect my replacement microwave installation. I have to call them to correct their mistake but have to spend my valuable time waiting on the phone. This after 8 service call and fixes to my microwave and it breaks again within 2 days. Guess what, people have jobs and family to attend to. AHS doesn't care that they ruin your day over and over. Worst customer service ever. On Friday November 16, 2018 at 7am I received a phone call from the service contractor (Ideal Plumbing in Las Vegas) to let me know that the 8am to noon time was not convenient for the service technician and they would arrive between 2pm and 9pm; a 7 ridiculous hour window. I did not agree but they said they had already changed the technician’s schedule.
Now, since the technician was now arriving late in the day, it would be another 24 hours until the replacement got approved, the technician purchased the water heater and brought it to our home to install. I called AHS, waited on hold for 48 minutes to talk to a representative and then told them what had transpired. They offered to transfer me to their Supervisor. After another 38 minute wait I talked to the Supervisor who really did not care that the service company THEY selected would not honor their original time because it inconvenienced the technician; AHS almost defended the service provider. AHS finally offered to send another service provider, but mentioned doing so would add another 24-48 hours for response time. This is how AHS defines “expedited service”.
Saturday, November 17, 2018 we receive a call from the “service provider” who says they cannot get in contact AHS to get the water heater purchase approved. I call AHS and waits 90+ minutes listening to their “on hold” music and finally decide to look at them online to find their system was down. During that time, there was no contact of any type to either the customers or the “service providers”. The service technician mentioned they did not work on Sunday, so that meant another day or 4 days minimum without a water heater for service that was expedited on a non-holiday weekend. This is the AHS way.
Monday I receive a call from the “service provider” who says they got the approval and can install our water heater between 2pm and 9pm, which really means 9pm today. Like there is really a choice for me after 5 days without a water heater and a house full of family. They then proceeded to tell me about the “extra” costs; new earthquake strap, new piping and permit. The installed earthquake strap is 2 years old, properly installed, is reusable and meets all safety and code requirements. The strap costs $15 at Lowe’s. The “service provider” insists on charging me $60 to replace this perfectly fit, reusable piece of hardware. They said it needed to be new to meet code. The water supply and return lines are 4 years old, have no wear or corrosion are made of flexible copper and are reusable.
The “service provider” insists on charging me $160 to replace these perfectly fit, reusable pieces of hardware. They said it needed to be new to meet code. So I asked the “service provider” this question; When I call the city and/or county to verify these pieces need to be replace to meet code, they are going to agree that in order to meet code requirements these pieces need to be newly purchased and installed with a new water heater. The “service provider” then just said; “well, regardless, we will not replace the water heater without installing these new pieces.” My point would be; there is a big difference between needing to “meet code” and using an implied plumber’s code to weasel money out of a customer. So I again called AHS for help and clarification.
After waiting 48 minutes to get a representative on the phone, who could can only reply according with pre-defined verbiage, I request a supervisor. I am placed on hold for 28 minutes and then the line goes dead. I’m not saying they hung up on me, but somehow the line goes dead on an unhappy customer. So I call them back… again. I again wait for 47 minutes (I can be very patient when I am not receiving the service I have paid for). When a representative gets on the line, I again run through my, now very long, story because she will not transfer me to a supervisor until she knows everything. So after I go through EVERYTHING again, she agrees to transfer me. I am now again on hold for 31 minutes, but this time the representative comes back on the line to make sure she has my phone number because a supervisor will call me back. 2 hours later, still no call.
AHS has extremely poor customer service. They also have very scripted responses, they don’t hear you because they really are not listening and really don’t care. AHS uses providers that also have poor customer service. Anybody who will change service times because of the technician’s convenience is not providing quality customer service. AHS represents themselves, not their customers. AHS does not have “expedited” service. Water heater replacement = 5 days. AHS does not have sufficient customer service representatives. Over 5 hours of hold time over 5 days. They really don’t give a damn about their customers.

This company has very poor customer service when it comes to situations outside of their "box." I have been a customer of 7 contracts (my own and rentals) with some being for more than 11 years in length. While most situations can be handled quickly and well, sometimes one may be an exception to the "rules" and result in lousy customer service. That happened to me on a recent service call to my home regarding a plumbing leak. First, it was "mislabeled" by their server that it was a "slab leak," when it was a leak from pipes within the wall and not under the floor. I was concerned about their server and asked to find my own (and be reimbursed by them). Thus began a "nightmare" that involved multiple encounters with them that were absolutely terrible.
My choice of contractors was fine and all went well. It was AHS's resistance to reimbursing me that took my reaching out to the BBB and more than a month to finally get resolved. Even then there was no "apology" from AHS, only more arguments as to why my request was out-of-line even though they eventually gave me the money. All of this due, again, to the misdiagnosis of a "slab leak." Now, weeks later, I am getting notices from them that I need to pay $75 to their contractor even though I already did. I have cancelled 6 of my 7 contracts with them (found another company) but still looking for a replacement for my property in CA.
By the way, if one tried to talk with them via phone, the waits are incredibly long. I spend almost 2 hours in one of my phone calls with them in this matter, only to be disconnected. Then they did not call me back. There is no way to email them. Multiple long calls transferred to different departments to get this resolved--all useless.

I contacted AHS on Saturday to try to get a plumber to fix my garbage disposal and a drain leak in a bathroom sink, both listed as covered items in my warranty. I had a very hard time understanding the customer service representative on the phone but I believe they told me that their system was down and could not enter service requests but would write down the information and enter it when the system was back up and running. On Sunday I tried to call again for a service request to fix my plumbing issues and was repeatedly put on hold by the automated system, told my wait was either greater than 30 minutes or greater than one hour, then the call was promptly dropped. Online didn't work either.
They require that you provide credit card information before requesting service or setting up an appointment, but couldn't take my credit card information. I ended up calling the line to add services to my warranty and was able to quickly talk to someone, who quickly told me they couldn't help me and could only transfer me to the service request number that had been efficient at dropping my call. Sunday night, I get an email from AHS saying that there was a service request initiated to fix a Garage Door Opener.
I don't have a garage. I canceled that service request both on the website and via the contractor. Monday I was finally able to submit a service request for the original plumbing problems and they assigned a contractor promptly. After looking up reviews on the contractor online, I am concerned. I called the requisite authority and found out that they are not licensed to perform work in my area. I am now on hold again waiting to talk to at AHS about getting a proper contractor in my home. They are unresponsive, it's hard to request service and even harder to contact; there isn't an email for customer service that I can contact. Had I known that it would be this difficult to get a plumber in my house, I would have done something different. I do not recommend.

AHS has been a horrible home warranty company. I can't wait for my contract to end so that I can find a company who actually cares if issues get fixed in your home or if the companies they contract out are held accountable when they damage appliances. AHS has the worst customer service, I have set waiting to get through to them for 45 minutes before my call was ever answered.
My most recent issue is that I'm putting in a request for the 3rd time now on my heat pump. It is obviously time for it to be replaced but the companies that they contract out won't just face up to the fact that they have been wrong all the times past and that the only way of fixing it going forward would be to replace the dang thing. All the companies care about is getting a service fee each time they are called out. They put a bandaid on the problem knowing it will last long enough so that the next time the issue comes up again they will get their service fee money again! Pretty perfect on their part. AHS never answers the phone and when they do, they are NOT helpful at all. Like I said, HORRIBLE home warranty company. They were to take the payment for services that same call. The plumber contacted us and fixed the stoppage. We didn’t hear from anyone about the fridge at all. We received a call from AHS about renewal, he informed me that our account was past due for the payment that should have been taken. I told him it was supposed to have come out the day we submitted the work orders and also asked him about the ice maker repair ticket. He said it was submitted wrong and that he’d have to transfer me and they could take payment and look at the ticket.
The hold times are ridiculous. Usually over 1 hour hold times. I couldn’t hold that long at that time and had to hang up. I then got an email about the past due amount of $150 on our account! Can’t pay it on my online account because they messed up and it should o my be $75, as the other ticket was never processed. So here I sit on hold. I have been holding for 2 hours and 20 minutes and counting!!! To fix their mistakes. If they truly cared about customer service as their automated message keeps telling me, they would get more employees to handle call volume. This isn’t the first time I’ve had a hold time well over an hour with this company.

My hot water heater pilot would not stay lit so I called American Home Shield and they sent out a gentleman from the plumbing company. He examined it and couldn’t find anything wrong. He lit the pilot and the pilot lasted about 12 hours, and then the hot water heater went off again. I called them the next morning and they sent out another guy. He looked at it and he also couldn't find anything wrong. He called the company. It was a Kenmore water heater. They said it was either the air vent or air intake, or the gas line into the hot water heater. He called American Home Shield and they said they wouldn’t cover anything like that, so he left me to deal with it.
I called the plumbing company again this morning and they haven’t called me back yet. I asked for an estimate of what it would be. I was disappointed that American Home Shield would not cover the repairs, which is what I understood that it would from their policy but they said they would not. I felt like I spent $75 for nothing. They didn’t solve my problem and they just left me hanging. No one ever explained anything to me. They sent me a contract and that was it.
I’m not satisfied with AHS. I wouldn’t expect them to replace the hot water heater completely because there was nothing wrong in that respect. But as far as fixing the problem, they didn’t do anything. If the hot water heater was broken, cracked or something like that, then they probably would have covered it. It’s frustrating. It’s not a major problem and it should’ve been covered. Cleaning after an air vent would’ve been simple to do and the people from the plumbing company could’ve done it right then and there on the spot. But they didn’t. Nobody did anything. They just looked at it and said, "It's not something..." They just walked out and said, "That’s it."

When my washing machine broke, I called it in and AHS said they have somebody here from Sears, and they gave me a day and time, if it was convenient to me. They said Sears would call me a half hour before the technician got here, and that was how it was. The contractor was very pleasant. The guy knew his business. He explained what was wrong and explained what he was gonna do. The washing machine was off-balanced. Something broke underneath the agitator and it caused it to shake, and pieces of plastic were coming off in the wash and it wasn’t spinning very well. The clothes were soggy all the time.
The Sears guy reset the washing machine and he said that was all set. He did it in about an hour and told me to just call if I had any problems. I now get the laundry done when I want to. American Home Shield did a great job and I’m very happy with the results. Every time I’ve had to have someone come out, American Home Shield has done an excellent job and the people have been really great. I’m really happy with the service and I will continue using them. I have recommended them to several friends.

The last claim we had with AHS was for our air conditioning unit. I put in a call and they called me right back and set up an appointment. The vendor came two days later, and then found the problem and fixed it. It was a very good service. I usually go online and put in the claim and they’ll call me right back. Whatever vendor they assign, they’ll call back. And then we’re in touch and I have a local name. Afterwards the vendor will call when the appointment is set up, and then they call when they get to the house. It works out real well.
The vendor for the ac checked the outside, checked the inside and found out that it was a blown fuse on the air handler, which was a $25 part versus the major air conditioning unit outside-- because it just all stopped working. But then, he replaced that and then he did a full check on the outside and said that everything was good. That was really good because they could have told me anything.
If I would have brought somebody else in, they could have just said that the whole unit outside wasn’t working. Also they took their call equally rather than saying that there was a priority for other customers. I felt that we were definitely taken care of quickly and they were able to resolve it fast. We’ve had AHS since we bought the house. We’re coming up to four years and we’ll continue with them. They’ve been very good, also in explaining when they come out. The vendors that have come out explain what the problem was and then they showed me the parts so I got a better understanding of what was involved.

We had problems with our AC a month or two ago and determined that there was a Freon leak. The techs from American Home Shield came and tested the unit to see where the leak was. They did what they could do, filled it up and gave us more Freon. But the first time that they came here, there was a big backlog of the parts that we needed. We were without AC for a month and it was really hot so it was not good at all. But then the second time, they fixed it. Then, about six weeks later, it wasn't cooling properly. Our unit was old enough that they had to upgrade a certain function on it. The second guy that came out said that the leak could have been because they didn't put on the new part properly, but there was no way to determine that. But the AC has been working well since.
We are very thankful to have AHS. It saved us money and they were really helpful and responsive. Usually, we call them to submit a claim and someone either texts or calls us back. Also, the people that we worked with were all great and we were happy. And so, for anyone who is considering a one year warranty for the sale of a home, I will recommend them.

We go to my cellphone and to the app to file a claim. The website is very convenient and once you get into it, it's easy to use. The issue we had was with the washer and dryer. It was making a clunky noise as it was spinning. Then the ice maker wasn’t producing the ice correctly either. But in this area, it took about a week for the contractor to come out. They said they were booked up. When AA Dependable Appliance Service came out though, they were very professional. My wife felt very comfortable with them being there.
I had the house rented out for about five years and I gave the property manager access to the website to go in and do the job order. However, they did not. When I got back into the house, I was able to call Home Shield and everything was taken care off. So it was positive. The home warranty is a good thing to have. As a matter of fact, I recommend American Home Shield to my friends when they get ready to buy a house or if they already have the house, to actually look into it. The faucets and toilets were not getting enough pressure so it'd clogged every time. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and it asked me to put the number of items. There are four faucets in the home and three toilets, and I can only put four things so I had to make two separate claims and it went to two different companies. I had to call AHS to get them to put it all on one company which I liked and had worked with before on a previous claim. The customer service rep told me that if I have a similar incident, I just put them in one order then call and tell them to add these other things to it. The restriction note when putting an online order should be made clear that we need to call if we have an extenuating amount of items.
Nevertheless, The contractor was the same guy from the same company last time and he was great. His professionalism and demeanor were perfect that’s why I had requested that company again. It didn't take long for him to resolve the problem and since the repair, the faucets and toilets have been working perfectly. Overall, it has been a great experience with American Home Shield. It turned out that it couldn't be repaired, so it is being replaced. I called to file the claim, and my only complaint with American Home Shield during the week is that I was on hold forever. However, I was more successful at weekends. I did it online at some point and it worked out better.
My sister was at home when the contractor came and she said the tech was great and he explained everything, but he wasn't sure if the unit could be fixed. I went through a couple of people and somebody at American Home Shield told me to call Prestige myself. They were the local place that was doing it. I called Prestige and they told me that they supplied the information to American Home Shield, but I haven't received anything back yet. In the end, it was all resolved and it was all good. They were also very polite on the phone. They sent a plumber out and I paid whatever my cost was. He let me know when he was coming and was there when he said he would. He got the work done very quickly and cleaned things up when he was done. I hope this review gets a response from AHS. Can't think of any other way to get one. Like the others who have reviewed this company, the work that I needed done still has not been completed (since August) and my blood pressure has hit the roof. The sad part is that a couple years ago they were responsive and my repair was done well and on time. Not sure what has happened to the company but it is frustrating beyond anything I have experienced, and I still cannot get a response from them.
It doesn't seem like these terrible reviews matter to them at all. If you don't already have AHS I would steer clear of them until you see some positive reviews. There is not ONE positive review for them on Yelp and there are two listings for the same company on Yelp, probably because AHS has multiple phone numbers, none of which are answered in less than an hour.
I had a leak in my bathroom. The first repair company never called or contacted me despite many efforts to reach them. AHS then sent another company, and again it took weeks to get any contact from them. AHS then tells me "someone" canceled the service order! (WTF?) They then restart the repair order, and the repair company has been out to the house more than three times, and now in addition to the original leak, we have no hot water in that shower. No response from AHS and was told by their phone robot that the "hold time is greater than one hour." So instead of sitting on hold for more than an hour, I am writing this review.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

They encouraged me to buy coverage for a specific item and then as I sought assistance they denied the very thing they said they would cover. Specifically, the reps will put you on hold up to 2 hours and parse out every word in the contract to deny coverage if the words are in there that say it will be covered. It is an unbelievable scheme they have. The training they receive is to deny...deny...deny...even when the customer is right and has followed their instructions. My course now is to take every opportunity to inform the public of how this American Home Shield works in the background as I have it well documented.

Updated on 12/03/2018: After waiting more than an hour, talking about 15 minutes, agent hung up. She has my phone number. Did not call back. This is a continuation of all the problems they have not addressed. This is 2nd home I've had contract. It was always hard to contact and get help. No service people close to my home. No one wants to come here and I suspect AHS tells them they will not pay for fixing problems.
Original Review: The 2 companies they have available are hour & half away. Not interested in 3 hrs on road. One company came twice, never had a tool or inspected inside unit. For the present time, he said to leave both units on fan at 70 degrees. Utility bill was $270. Six weeks later I switched to auto and 74. Bill went down $50.00. He said what needed to be done would not be covered by warranty co. Two ton unit would be $10,000. I'm 67, but not stupid. Told him I would think about it.
Second repairman came, with tools! Opened unit. There were loose wires. Fixed those. But because his paperwork did not include other issues, including 2nd unit, he couldn't work on it. Ductwork is covered under my policy. The incorrect installation was not able to be seen during the inspection last December. The repairmen won't even try to explain that the reason certain rooms are hot (not noted until spring) is because the basement ductwork is run to the main floor master bedroom. No one is living in the basement. Unit doesn't need to be turned on, except for the fact that the master bedroom needs air.
Basement is already cool, so thermostat has to be set really low to make unit turn on. I moved into this house in February. I have had other issues. They either don't know how to fix the problem, don't have the part, and never come back. Stay away from this company if you live in a rural area. They don't cover chandeliers that fall due to poor insulation, or so the agent told me.
Good morning Maggie,

The first contractor called me up and said that they didn't do that kind of work. They also said that they told American Home Shield about that. Then the other company called and told me that they didn't go to that area and that they already said that to American Home Shield. It was not what you want when you got problems and you want something fixed, especially when you paid high dollar for the insurance. In the end, they finally sent sent a guy out here who was really good. But the problem drove on for such a long time and it was such an aggravating circumstance. All in all, I was happy with what the last tech did but American Home Shield and their communication with the people that get to do the job is terrible.

Brandt Appliance Services did our refrigerator before and this last time, they did the dryer. The dryer turned itself off but my clothes weren't dry and when I started the dryer, it was clunking then it turned itself off. Apparently, when I shoved the filter back in, a sock went in with it and wrapped around the motor. The technician found that out and took the sock out.
I like Brandt because unfortunately, American Home Shield sometimes gets people that come from Orlando. That’s two hours away and they come on certain days whereas Brandt is 15 minutes down the road. If you have an issue, you’ve got them and they’re better with scheduling. They get you in a day and they have a two-hour window. Plus they do a good job. I’m very pleased with them.
I bought my house in the ‘80s and I’ve had American Home Shield for close to 20 years. When my husband bought his house, I also talked him into American Home Shield as well. I even got my mother to do it when my father died in 2008. My dad used to fix everything and when he died, I wanted somebody that I know was reliable to take care of her and do the job. And I knew American Home Shield would send reliable people.
It worked out really nicely too because when she died in 2016, her air conditioner died. We were dealing with the memorial and we didn’t need a hot house with everybody coming down. American Home Shield got somebody there because it was in August and it’s Florida. A year later, something went wrong because of that vendor and the new company said they had done a really crappy job. The new company needed to redo the ductwork connection and that was all taken care of by American Home Shield at no extra cost. So American Home Shield stood behind. I don’t think they even deal with the first company after.
The new company that came out was excellent. Last year, we had the air conditioner die and they came out four times. It was one of those situations where you fix it here and it's working fine. But then, no. It's got a little more problem. It was an older system so that happens. Plus my husband worked air conditioning at the Space Center so he supervised and the guy did as much as he could at the time. My husband couldn't fault his quality work. It’s just that there was more than one problem and the little problems don’t show up when you have the big problem in front of your face. The company was really good about coming back until it was fixed and by the fourth time, it was really fixed. The thing is that you have 60 days for a contractor to work out everything, which is nice. That’s why I like American Home Shield and why I have been staying with them.
Also, if you do have a problem with a vendor, American Home Shield will listen to you over the vendor. You’re their client. The vendor is just their worker. Your comments have more weight. I had an issue when they were fixing my mom’s pool and this guy was doing a crappy job. He had been out here three times and the pool was still an issue. So I got somebody else out locally. American Home Shield only had one vendor that did pools so I took the pool off the thing. The vendor before was good though, but sometimes, American Home Shield can't get a local vendor and they send other people. But if you don’t like the vendor, you have the right not to have it. That’s what’s nice. They pick you over the vendor.
I’ve also recommended American Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I was telling my friends up in Sanford about American Home Shield for about seven years. Then finally, they freaking listened to me and got the service. Within a year, their stove died then their fridge died within two weeks of that. Then within a month, their dryer died. The stove could be fixed but it was 25 years old and I suggested that they not get it fixed. I told them to get the repair quote, take that money, go to Lowe's, get the 10% off for military and use their Discover credit. And they got a new stove. By then, they knew what to do with the fridge. They couldn't believe American Home Shield had taken such good care of them.

They needed to check my furnace again and I’m glad that when I called them to have them come back out it was within like a 30-day period. I told them that I didn’t think that I should have to pay another $75 because it was happening so soon, and they agreed with me. The rep talked with her supervisor and let me know that they were gonna deduct that payment. But the only problem is they kept sending me notices that I owed them $75, and I had to call them back a couple times but they did eventually solve it.

My biggest problem though is that they don't have enough people working and it takes them 20 minutes to half an hour if you sit on hold. While you can do the callback where you put in your number, it still takes over half an hour for them to call you back. But so far, the contractors they've sent out have been fine. We’ve had several claims since we bought this house and the contractors are always there within a day. Like when my air conditioning went out, they’ve gotten people out here pretty quick. I called the tenant back and told them we couldn't do anything yet and it was a mess. It made me feel like AHS needed to do more about their communications with their customers and give them a heads up when the policy expires.

The contractor was good too, and although it took a while for some of the parts to come in, the service was excellent. Everything’s been good since the repair. With Home Shield, we can cover our appliances and get good service for getting them repaired.

The back of the microwave was corrosive and it was peeling off. I couldn't use it because every time I tried, some sparks came out of it. I called to file a claim and then I continued the process online. Their website was easy to use, and the claims process was great and easy as well. I had good communication with their rep. Although I was stressed, she was very patient with me. Then the contractor from Sears that they sent out was great and friendly. Now the microwave is like new and it has been perfect since the repair.

I had a garage door opener issue and Brown's Garage Doors out of Spicewood, Texas that AHS sent out was excellent. They made an appointment, immediately showed up when they said they were gonna show up and worked on it for about 45 minutes. They were very special and knew exactly what they were doing. Some of the items wasn't covered by AHS, which I was fine with, but it was all clear. The tech called, described what the problem was, and when he got here, he had all the parts he thought he may need. He showed up and fixed it, and he was right.
We are in a retirement community and people are always looking for good people to work on things. For people in areas like ours, one of the biggest assets is the ability to refer competent people. I've had two other guys out. One came out, looked at my issue, but he never showed up again. Another guy came out, looked at it and sprayed oil and said, "That ought to do it." But with the competent craftsman that came, even if AHS hadn't covered anything, it was worth it. I have recommended the contractor that AHS referred to me to other people who I know are having some issues. Some of the people here are totally befuddled and doesn't really know how to track people down and I have advised them to consider using AHS because it takes the hunt out of it for them and AHS will refer, talk to the person, and follow up.

Sears then came out on October 31st to look at the other 2 appliances. They determined that parts needed to be ordered for them as well. I then waited for the parts to arrive.
We received some parts for the refrigerator and dishwasher, but not all of them. I finally contacted Sears on Thursday, November 8th. They told me that the parts had been back ordered and to give them until Monday to try and locate the parts. I waited to call Sears back until Monday, November 12th. I was told that they did not have the parts and to contact AHS about getting a replacement.
Since it was late, I contacted AHS on Tuesday. I spoke with a William ** who said that he would look into the appliance claim and call me back on Wednesday at 3:30 PM CDT. He offered refunding me the $100 service fee for my troubles with getting disconnected and not having my appliances repaired. I spent just under an hour on the phone on Tuesday with AHS and spent about 30 minutes on the phone with Sears.
On Wednesday, I never received a call back from William, and so I contacted Sears and was on the phone with them for over an hour in which they eventually told me that they could not locate the parts. After being on hold with AHS for about 40 minutes, I finally spoke to someone who told me that the parts were in process and to wait for them to arrive and the person who I talked to could not find any record of William. I then asked to speak to a manager and was connected with Anthony (he said he was not allowed to give out his last name). Anthony assured me that he would get me an ETA for all of the parts and would give me a call back on Thursday at 2:00 PM.
On Wednesday, I was on the phone with AHS for over 4 hours and on the phone with Sears for over an hour. On Thursday, I called AHS after not receiving a callback from Anthony and waited on hold for 1 hour and 20 minutes to just speak to someone. I was told the same thing that the parts were in process and that an ETA could not be given. I asked for a Supervisor and they transferred my call to Stephanie. She told me that she was going to contact Sears the next day and find out what the ETA is for the parts. She also assured me that she would call me on Friday with an update between 2:30 and 3:00. I asked for her last name or if she could send me an email confirming this, but she said that she was not allowed. She did give me an email address and an Activity #. I am now waiting to see if I get a response.
On Friday, I received an email from Sears for me to call them about my parts. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Sears and they eventually told me that the parts are on back order and are not currently available. I was only able to find this out when I was speaking to a supervisor. I asked them to send that info to AHS. They told me that AHS already knows, but that they would send the emails to AHS again. I then decided to follow-up with AHS around 11:30. I was on the phone with AHS for the next 3 hours. Unfortunately, I got disconnected or I would probably still be on the phone with them. I was speaking with a supervisor, but she was not helpful. She kept on changing the story on the parts. She said that the parts were on back order, then the parts were available and in process, then the parts were ready to ship, then the parts were not available.
She requested that I give Sears 5-7 business days to locate the parts and then call back. I told her that this was not acceptable. She said there was nothing else that she could do and that the circumstances are out of AHS’s control. I asked her why they won't replace the microwave and she told me that they had not received a diagnosis from the contractor, but it was requested and I should receive a call from the claims departments in 2 business days. (I won't be counting on it since they have not called me yet.)
It has now been 23 days since we had a microwave and it does not appear that it will be fixed in the next week or two. I am being told by Sears that they cannot locate the parts, but AHS keeps giving me the runaround and unbelievable hold times. I thought dealing with First American Home Buyers was bad, but so far my treatment by AHS has been worse. When I was contacted by AHS to switch to them 3 years ago, I was told that I would not have long hold times and that if my appliance could not be fixed in reasonable time frame then it would be replaced. So far it seems like everything that I have been promised by AHS has been a lie.
Good morning John,

I usually submit claims to American Home Shield depending on what time of the day. If it was during the normal working hours then I would use the phone because you wouldn't have to wait very long or leave messages. But if something happened after the evening then I would go on the internet. My most recent claim was about a leaky faucet outside my house and I submitted that claim online. The website was very user-friendly. I got in right away and explained what was going on. Then I got an email. They let me know really quickly. The next day, I got a call early in the morning. We made an appointment and the guy came out. I showed him what needed to be done. Then it took him about 20 minutes to do what needed to be done and he had it fixed. Everything has worked fine since then.
I've never had an issue with American Home Shield or the people they've sent out. A contractor had to come out a few times for the air conditioner and they fixed that immediately. Then when I turned the heater part on about three weeks ago, someone also had to come out. The contractor came out the next day and said it was the fan. They said they would come back, which they did. The fan was put in and it's worked great ever since.

My dryer wasn’t drying and my electric touch faucet stopped working. I filed the claims separately online with American Home Shield. Both times, the original contractor either didn't return calls or wasn't able to get out within a reasonable amount of time, so I had to call back and get another contractor to come out and the ones that I finally got have been fine. For the dryer, they were able to sort of fix it and tell me what was going on. It doesn't always dry and I have to do a couple of things in order to make it dry. But it was not really a mechanical issue and the contractor cannot do anything about it anymore.
For the faucet, they sent out a plumber today who said that it has to be replaced. It's a pretty expensive faucet, so I have to figure out if AHS is gonna pay for it or not. Today, I tried to call to get more information about the faucet and I was on hold for about an hour. I've been pretty unhappy with the wait time. When we had a claim for the pool pump, the pool pump guy came out, saw what he needed to see, and ordered the part. When the part came in, he came out right away, fixed it, and he was on his merry way. That went beautifully and I had every idea that the same thing was gonna happen with my furnace claim. I called in the claim a week ago for my furnace and it is not going well at all. American Home Shield took the information when I called them on Thursday, and then they sent somebody out on Friday. They didn’t like the estimate so they sent somebody out Saturday, and that person was incompetent. He could not give me a day or when he could get out here. Somewhere around Wednesday the following week, I got a call from his office scheduling them to come and replace the furnace on Saturday.
I called Friday morning to confirm, and the guy said that that was not the case and somebody made a mistake. He was not coming out because he was too busy. I told him that it's snowing and there's no heat in the house. He said he could maybe get out on Monday. But I am not super confident in this man's abilities or in his word that he'll be out on Monday. I don’t think there's any way to speed him up and I'm afraid that if we say anything more, then it's gonna make it worse and we're at his mercy. Heat in the house in Michigan is a basic need. We've had space heaters going, but that's not ideal. When we're not home, we turn them off. It's not safe to have them on. So when we get home, it takes a good couple of hours for it to even get up to 65 degrees.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We purchased the house and it had a variety of locks and different keys. We thought it would be helpful to have all of the locks on the same key. They put us in touch with A-1 Locksmith who contacted us right away, scheduled the time to come out and spent a few hours getting all the locks rekeyed. The locksmith was very friendly and he knew what he was doing. He was down to business.
Some of the cost was picked up by AHS and then we had to pay some additional because there were more locks that were not covered, which we were willing to do. A-1 Locksmith provided good service and we were pleased with the outcome. We have used American Home Shield before and when we made the offer, we included it and it was a smart move. Our claims with AHS have all been AC related. Our ac is almost 20 years old. The last time I filed a claim a contractor came out and fixed it. Hopefully we don't have any more issues with it because that was like number four of having somebody come out for the unit. I usually file a claim online and the website navigation has been easy, clear-cut and dry. All four of the contractors AHS sent has also been great.
However, when I called AHS I got somebody who did not seem to understand the words that came out of my mouth. They were speaking English but there was some miscommunication there. I had an issue recently regarding the service fee and I got nowhere with them. I was trying to explain I had already paid and all the guy did was say he was sorry, but nothing was showing off on his end. We’ve used American Home Shield for a few years and overall, it’s been very good. However, this past year, I’ve noticed a difference. Our hot water heater unit was 25 years old and the original put in was high-end but there was a lot of excuses made in order to not repair it or replace it. We followed up by numerous calls where we were on hold for 30 minutes so it was aggravating. If you leave a message for a manager and they call back in 48 hours, that person seemed to be more on the same page. This was after about a week and we still didn’t have hot water. Luckily, we have two hot water heaters but it was really frustrating.
AHS replaced it only after we agreed to what they called a $300 fee for upgrades and that ended up being the cost of the unit that they delivered. By this point, you’re so exacerbated in trying to fight the situation that you just let it go. They took care of overall repairs but replacing something was not gonna happen. We picked AHS because we have a Sub-Zero refrigerator worth $8,000 and they claimed that they would replace up to 5,000 on an item. One lady said that was what they would do and another lady said they wouldn’t. If they replace it, it would be with the most basic unit they could put in there. Their service has gone way downhill. My most recent claim was the replacement of a refrigerator, and I was purchasing a freezer so that it would match. The contractor that came out was fine, very thorough and relatively quick. He diagnosed what the problem was, and it was no problem. But from the first visit, everything went bad. To this very minute, I have not gotten my refrigerator or my freezer. I ordered it through Sears, so I set up the initial time. I ordered the products and they said they would deliver in two weeks. Two weeks came. The delivery company called the day before and said, “We’re gonna be delivering your items tomorrow between x and y time.” But by 8:30 that day, I got a robocall that said, “We’re sorry, but we’re not able to make the delivery for the items’ permit.”
I called and they said, “We don’t have your product yet. The manufacturer hasn’t sent it to us in the warehouse. We’re gonna wait another two weeks.” That went on for four times. The fourth time, which was this past Monday, I called American Home Shield and cancelled my order for the two items. I’ve chosen to exercise the cash-out where I can get the item myself, send the receipt and get the money back. But whatever is happening with Sears is a travesty and a bad representation for American Home Shield. Instead of admitting that they don’t have the product and that they can’t get it for 10 months, they’ll just keep punting two weeks at a time. I’ve been without a refrigerator for two solid months, and I’m not going into Thanksgiving without a refrigerator.
Sears gave me a route that routed me back to where I started once American Home Shield signed off and made the order for me to get the new appliance. The guy literally said, “Sir, if you don’t set the date for delivery, we will continue to call you.” And I said, “You’re not understanding what I’m saying. I have cancelled the order for these two items.” He must not have taken me out of the system because they’re calling me and saying that the products are still on their way. But I don’t attribute that to American Home Shield. It’s unfortunately who they are working with, and unfortunately, it’s through Sears. Getting to American Home Shield is fine, but the customer service or the delivery company related to my most recent transaction was quite a challenge.

They called the vendor that was supposed to come out but he wasn't accessible when we needed him. AHS took care of that and sent somebody out quickly.
Then, our dishwasher did not work and we told AHS to use the last people that came, which was Sears. The guy who came out was very knowledgeable. I described my problem and he looked into it. He found something that was in the inner workings of the dishwasher that had gotten clogged and he cleaned it out. Also, he let me ask questions, answered them, and ran the dishwasher three times after the repair to make sure the same problem wouldn’t occur. That was great and it has been working fine since. However due to AHS and their horrible and unorganized way of handling this claim, I had no running water to my home for 7 days. There were over 1000$ of uncovered costs in their fine print, and they offered nothing but a 1-night stay at a hotel for a family of 5. We have to work and my daughters have school and work. And we had to get our own hotel rooms to be able to shower. So no water for bathing, cooking, washing clothes, etc. I can’t even talk to the same person to try to get any compensation for their horrible service.
I have no faith in this company anymore and replaced my other water heater myself rather than have to suffer like this again. I have no idea why or how they can get away with this sort of subpar service. The attorney general should have done something because I have read so many bad reviews on Facebook about their service especially when it involves air conditioning and water heaters. Very sketchy and no integrity. I’m scared they won’t pay for any ac breakdowns now. They really need a serious overhaul and better approach to handling customer concerns.
