I was in need of some repairs to a washing machine. The AHS rep on the phone line had a very pleasant attitude, was very helpful and answered everything that I needed to know. Then, they came out, assessed it, came back and said that it would be too costly to repair it. So, they suggested that they'd replace the unit. The contractor delivered the unit but didn’t hook it up, so I had to get my own engineer to do that. But American Home Shield sent me a $25 check for that. Since then, the washing machine is working fine. Once again, my experience with American Home Shield went well. Any individual that is a homeowner or a rentor, get a contract with American Home Shield because it's good to have somebody in your corner that you can call 'cause you just don’t know when something's gonna go wrong.

I usually call American Home Shield and have someone to help me with my claim. Recently, I had problems with my garbage disposal and I had to be careful what I washed. It was in the kitchen, so it affected my daily operation. When I called AHS, the interaction I had with the rep was very professional and positive.

Two months ago, my refrigerator and freezer stopped working. I called American Home Shield, and it was easy submitting a claim. They sent me a company, but the lady could never schedule the service because I had to get her some information about the fridge. So I called AHS and they sent a different company, which was great. They came out but had to order the parts. When the parts came in, they were prompt to come back out. Our fridge was fixed. I like American Home Shield and I've used it like four times on various things around the house. So, it has definitely saved me money.
Hello Katherine. Thank you for letting us know how easy it was to request, receive and resolve your service request. We appreciate your positive feedback.

American Home Shield's website is good and I submitted my claim online for the refrigerator. The contractor that came out was from a local company. They were good and professional, but they weren't able to fix the unit in one visit. This is a freezer, so I had to get this thing to cool and buy ice. I called American Home Shield and they said that was the earliest service I could get.
Then two weeks later, the GE people were available. So, American Home Shield sent a GE professional technician to try to fix the refrigerator the second time, and finally, they were able to repair this thing. But the time frame was too long. Why didn't they send the GE people the first time? It took almost a month from the time I submitted the claim to when it was repaired, and I didn't feel too satisfied. I was certain that I could get a temporary unit if they still couldn't speed up the service, but American Home Shield said they were unable to do that. Nevertheless, the refrigerator is working again, although it's making a very loud noise. I don't want to bother American Home Shield again, however. I feel their rescheduling department must improve their service. They said they know they have to send GE to check this again.
I agree, four weeks is a long time to be without the use of your refrigerator. I apologize that you had that delay in resolution. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to discuss your concerns.

My washer stopped working. I submitted a claim on the phone with AHS and the live agent I spoke with was very nice. The contractor was also very nice person and this was the third time that he had been here. He fixed the washer on the first visit but I have not been able to get down there and wash yet. So, I haven't tried it but he said that it is working already. Other than that, I have complaint about AHS' rules. When I have an appliance that's not working and I call them for that, if at the same time I have something electrical, the appliance person who came out couldn't work on it even though he does electricity. He'll say that I have to call and make another claim for that.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the water dispenser on our refrigerator. I filed it online, which was the first time I did that, and the process was a lot more streamlined and time efficient than calling. The first time the contractor came out, he looked at the unit and had to order a part. The part came in in three business days, I received a call, the guy came back out, and he did the fix within 10 minutes. The contractor was super friendly and professional and we were very pleased. We've used American Home Shield on a couple of different homes for the past few years and we have always been pleased with them. We love them.

American Home Shield is great and I would recommend them. I had to file a claim over the phone for our broken pool pump because I wasn’t able to do it online. It doesn’t have the right little click button. Filing over the phone was good, fast, and easy. Submitting claims through the website is usually easy except when it doesn’t have the right option. Other than that, the pool pump was replaced and it was great. American Home Shield has been wonderful so far.

I had two issues on one invoice. I had a leak in the foundation. I came in and saw the garage was full of water. I walked in my home and I could feel the warm water on the floor, in the concrete and under the tile. And so, I got on the phone and made a call to somebody that could locate the leak and stop it, but they didn’t cover that. AHS then sent Habit Plumbing to reroute the plumbing ‘cause it went through the slab. It was the hot water for the kitchen. They sent one guy out and he was awesome. He busted his tail all day and all night. Using American Home Shield is worth the money.
And then the other claim was for my shower's diverter, the one that you pull up so you could either have the tub or the shower head to operate. The rep said I need to put in a new claim so I did and then they gave me the runaround. So, I just put it on hold. Other than that, they’ve all been professional and all in all, I'm satisfied with their service and the contractors, especially Habit.

Had a new home with a burned breaker inside main panel that melted. The electrician they sent wanted to replace the panel and make it safe. American Home Shield refused to replace the panel and opted to go cheap and take out the bad breaker and spread the load to other breakers. Not safe, not acceptable. Complaints made and they had no interest in doing it properly and safely even though I told them children occupied the home. We moved, and got these same clowns for warranty of our home.
So I hired a proper electrical company and they won’t cover because it’s out of network and that’s fine, but now the septic is backed up and needs fixing and guess what? It’s outside the foundation so they won’t cover it only inside. So basically this warranty is worthless and waste of money and I hope I save someone the grief my family has endured. Don’t use these clowns, they’re condescending on phone including supervisions. Very mean hearted folks who could care less their impacting children’s safety.

Their customer service people have hung up on me several times and failed to call back to address my concerns, which results in needing to call back, go through an extensive hold process only to get nowhere. It is impossible to get a hold of anyone in customer service when you have an issue with American Home Shield. The only way to connect with someone is over the phone and you will wait on hold for at least 45 minutes before speaking to someone. A company of this size with such a lack of service over the phone ought to have other means to connect with customer service representatives. Email, chat, etc. Most people do not have an hour to spare sitting on the phone waiting to speak to someone, let alone have that person actually resolve their issue. American Home Shield: If you have numerous grouchy telephone customers, this is likely the reason why! Potential New Warranty Customers: If you want access to decent customer service at ALL, you will not find it at American Home Shield... Do look into other warranty companies!
Here is a specific example: I recently scheduled a follow-up service for an issue with my dishwasher that a service contractor had been out previously to fix. The issue was not fixed, so I scheduled a follow-up order. I was not to be charged since I had already paid for the previous work order to fix the issue. I received a work order email saying the service contractor would contact me within 24 hours. Three business days later I had still not heard from anyone. Come to find out someone WITHIN AMERICAN HOME SHIELD cancelled my follow-up service request! They did not contact me first, just cancelled it.
When I called AHS to reschedule the follow-up service, it took 45 min to get a human voice on the line. Then they tell me they cannot expedite the request, even though the cancellation mistake was on their end. So here I am starting the process again. By the way I have been on the phone with them for 59 minutes and 53 seconds and have yet to have this resolved. Bottom line, this warranty is a hassle. Their customer service process is a hassle.
Furthermore, AHS is rarely willing to replace anything of value. We have been customers for over 15 years and they have fully replaced one item in those 15 years which was a water heater. In these 15 years our air conditioner and dishwasher have also been due for replacement. Almost all of the technicians sent out to fix these appliances have repeatedly said the same. However AHS will only cover continual band-aid repairs. The amount they offer to "help" you replace an appliance that really NEEDS to be replaced (but that they prefer to cover with a band-aid repair) is meager. After 15 years with an AHS warranty, we find ourselves considering cancelling our policy.
Hello, Erin. I do hope that the replacement process goes smoothly for you and please contact me if you need any assistance.

As a customer of American Home Shield, I am very disappointed with their service. If unrepairable, their warranty covers a replacement appliance of equal features. It is understandable that they don't match the brand when choosing an equivalent. In my case, they matched the features with a different brand, but that brand had completely different dimensions and would not physically fit within my kitchen space. I notified them that the appliance wasn't a suitable replacement because it would be impossible to install.
Both customer associates AND their managers held the line that the dimensions of the appliance and ability to physically install it are NOT a criteria. They further stated that any required modifications to the home, counters, walls, electric, etc to accommodate the new device they chose are not covered, either. They would only offer an appliance they KNEW wouldn't be installable. I am very disappointed that this kind of illogical service is what is not only offered, but upheld by all levels of management.
Hi, Andrew. I have sent an email advising of the current progress regarding the reimbursement. Thank you.

The A/C needed 3.4 pounds of refrigerant and the company charged $100 per pound. AHS only pays $10 per pound, so I ended up paying $75 for the service call and $306 for the refrigerant and $316 for the policy. AHS ended up paying $34 for refrigerant.
Thank you for your response to my email. Have a great holiday season, Donald.

While American Home Shield's automated system is okay, I prefer talking to a real person. If it's automated, then I'm not sure what key to hit on the phone. They don't give me any suggestion on what key to hit or the automated person doesn't say, "Hit this for a live person." I filed a claim over the phone when my garbage disposal wasn't working and I had great interaction with the contractor who came out. He was a very nice gentleman, was very knowledgeable, and fixed the problem in no time at all. It happened that a switch had to be turned back on and that was it, but it was very nice. Now, everything's been working fantastic.
A couple of years ago, American Home Shield also sent out a repairman to fix my furnace a couple of times and they did a fantastic job. The furnace is old, but it's still working. The contractor told me what the problem was, he fixed it, and there was no problem since. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield is fantastic. I'd tell others to get a home warranty program from them.
Good evening James,
I would like to thank you for the feedback regarding your experience to have the garbage disposal repaired. It is our goal to provide you with knowledgeable and friendly technicians that can service your issue within a timely manner. I hope you continue to enjoy!

Unresponsive and Unprofessional. I've been on the phone with American Home Shield for over two hours. They customer service reps do not want to let me speak with a manager and keep putting me back in the call line. The complaints for the company go all the way back to 2015. Everyone is making the same complaints and have the same problems. American Home Shield is unresponsive to the needs of the customer. I was informed that they have other companies to do the same type of work and AHS is continuing to use this unprofessional, unethical, trifling company.
Good morning Jerri,

American Home Shield sent me Handy Randy to help me with my microwave and refrigerator. But when the refrigerator was acting up they sent somebody else out there first and he was just really arrogant. He was saying the refrigerator was abused and that he needed the claim to not be submitted because there had been an abuse, wear and tear. It’s just me and my wife. We go to get a cup of ice, get a glass of water and walk away from it. How the hell can you abuse a refrigerator? He was just lazy.
I told Home Shield I would make a deal with them and it was gonna be fair. I’m not one of those that want something for nothing. How about have somebody back out there, different person. If they felt like it was abused, I would pay the extra $100, and I would call it in and buy a new refrigerator. When the man got there, he was very friendly and thorough. He explained what was going on and why it happened. I learned a lot about refrigerator. If he had told me first, I could have done it myself, which was cool. So we got done with it. He got the parts in fast, got here and it was fixed. We haven’t had a bit of problem.
But it took a week to finally get a hold of somebody. You would sit on hold, and sit on hold, and sit on hold. That was just to submit a claim from the very beginning. It was real bad. When they do decide to do the repair, it also took forever to get a hold of somebody on my end. The claims end of it, it wasn’t as bad. When I finally got a hold of somebody, I voiced my opinion. It sucked. I’ve never had such a customer service, without customer service. I could tell that was corporate, not hiring enough help. So why would I club somebody that hasn’t have no control over that.
We’ve had Home Shield on our family for years and I had it many years ago. I never had this problem, ever -- none of my aunts, uncles or mom. There’s like 10 of us that have Home Shield. There has been a change about four years ago. My mom was telling me she had a problem with her pool pump and at that point, she's only had to call them three times in 10 years, and it just took her forever to get a hold of somebody.
But the workmanship from the technicians, other than that one, was great. It always has been. I would recommend American Home Shield. Their corporate office needs to hire more help. But other than that, I have no problems with it. I like AHS. When I first signed up for it many years ago, it was like $30 of co-pay. Service is good once you got a hold of somebody.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield's online claim submission is a lot easier for me. I go online and enter the claim, they assign the claim to a contractor, and the contractor contacts me and we set up an appointment to get the claim resolved. My most recent claim was a plumbing issue and I had to call the contractor this time. I've had a couple of problems and follow up with them. The contractor didn't have the part when he was out before and they were supposed to get back to me but they never did so I called a couple of days ago. They have not resolved anything yet and they're supposed to be here on Friday to complete the work that they started back the 1st of November. Still, I have a good experience with American Home Shield so far. While it's rocky sometimes, issues normally get resolved.

We’ve had an excellent experience with American Home Shield with the exception of one time, on the air conditioning, wherein we had to wait a month and a half for a compressor to come in and right in the middle of July. But they were very good. They let us go and buy two fans to set up and cool around. It wasn’t their fault because the wrong compressor was sent and then the guys who did the work were 45 miles away. Other than that, I’ve been very pleased with AHS. We’ve had them for several things and my only complaint is when you call in to turn in a work order or a product that’s not working properly, you don’t get a live human, just a recording. Now, I would get a text message. It would be nice sometimes if you could get somebody on the phone. Sometimes, if I wanna just talk to somebody, it’s hard. You have to wait an hour or so to get to speak to somebody.
They’ve sent out one contractor for plumbing here, from Indianola. We had a hot water heater that burst and flooded the garage and a part of the house. I took care of all that and sucked it all up. They sent somebody who has been here twice and they were excellent. The people they sent out on plumbing and the guy that comes out on the air conditioning from Henryetta, were excellent, too. However, we had one bad experience with Appliance Experts who came out on a refrigerator. He was ugly and rude to me, and talked smart to me. I told AHS about it and they sent somebody in his place and they said, “We’d never have to use him ever again if we call an appliance man.”
American Home Shield has a really good service and they do a really good work. There was not a problem with their process at all. However, they changed it recently and I don’t like how they do things. We pay by the month and you give them your debit card and take it out of the account each month. And that’s okay, but I told them that we would prefer paying six months at a time and just send them a check but they don’t really do that. They wanna take it out of your debit card each month and we don’t like that. I had to write them a special thing so I’d remember to take it our every month. Other than that, AHS is a very good company and I have recommended them to other people.

Having the warranty makes it easier for me. Rather than having to track down people who can fix various things if they’re broken, I just go to one source and AHS handles it.

It doesn’t show you a comment box. Otherwise, I like AHS' service and I would recommend them.
I had problems with some pipes, one in my kitchen and one in my bedroom. One of them had a leak and one of them was plugged up. It wasn’t draining. The first AHS rep I spoke with was pretty good. She was kind of abrupt but it was okay. AHS sent out a really thorough plumber who explained to me what was going on. I felt really comfortable with what he was doing. He was great. So far, it’s been great. When I originally put in the claim, I did it online. But then, when I had to call them back, I was able to call them. And I really appreciated that on the day I called them, the technician was already out. And they said, "We can send him out." The next three hours, he was here.
I also had an electrical problem earlier in the year, which they fixed right away. I’m comfortable having the warranty just in case. The contractors that have come out have been excellent and professional. They were able to come in, diagnose the problem, and take care of it. I was kinda hesitant when I first got Home Shield. I wasn’t gonna get it. And then, just talking to other people, saying the coverage is good, I ended up getting it, and I’ve been pleased in the last couple of years. I will recommend them. It’s a very good service. I’m pleased with the service that I have.

I called and told American Home Shield when I was having problems with my air conditioner. It wouldn’t come on. They said they would have someone call me and Webb’s Heating and Air LLC did. They scheduled a time for them to come out. The technician who was here was courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable of what was going on. He said the issue was the relay and everything works really good now. American Home Shield is also a really good company. They helped me because when I called, I didn’t have the $100. I asked them to give me a chance to pay it and they were willing to do that. I thought that was great too. A lot of times when these things happen, you just don’t have it. I have also recommended them to someone.

I went online for my original claim with American Home Shield. It was for a plumbing problem. The turnaround time was almost immediate because the contractor was in the area. But with this particular case, I had a lot of problems with the plumber. The plumber said the issue was with the air conditioning so AHS called for Waggoner AC & Refrigeration. But the plumber was wrong and I didn’t need someone for the air conditioning at all. The air conditioning people were fine, though. I deal with American Home Shield for two different houses and it has always been good. Even the technicians have been good, except for that plumber.

The sink in the kitchen wasn’t working. We needed the whole spray piece and the faucets, and underneath the sink the pipe wasn’t working right either. I normally call American Home Shield to submit a claim. After a lot of pressing numbers, you'll get somebody if it’s in the hours that you should call. Otherwise, the reps will tell you to go online. If you don’t have a computer, you stay on the phone and you’ll get somebody. Then, after you get somebody on the phone, you might have to be put you on hold two or three times before you get to somebody again. But when I got to a live person, our interactions were not bad at all.
The last time, I requested that AHS send another plumber out because it wasn't a nice experience we had with that contractor. It took a little time for them to find another contractor, but the company that they sent out, Family Plumbing, was excellent. If I had a problem again, I don’t wanna see anybody but this contractor. When their two techs came in, they looked and assessed the damage. They were knowledgeable about what needed to be done and they didn’t tell me that the problem may be due to something that I did wrong. They had to replace the pipe. Also, they had to come back a second time because they had to get approval to do the work. But when they came back, they were prepared and didn't have to run to Home Depot to get the part. They were able to fix the problem at the second visit.
AHS said, though, that they didn’t cover plumbing, so we had to pay the contractor out of our pocket to do the repair. We had to pay them two hundred dollars. Plus, we had to pay $108.63 for the service fee, which is what it’s gonna cost you if you make a call and somebody comes out. So, all in all, the whole cost was $300. AHS told me that I needed another coverage, so I had to add another coverage to my warranty and I hope I never have that problem with them again. But despite all that, I was glad to get the problem fixed and have the repair done by people that really knew what they were doing.
I’ve also had problems with my oven and with my microwave. Sometimes, AHS had to go all the way to another state to get a contractor to come out, but they took care of the problem. If you have an emergency, you have to tell them. If you have one bathroom like we do in this old house and your bathroom is down, they consider that an emergency and they’ll get someone to come out to your house that same day.
I recommended AHS to my brother and to my sister because I’ve had them for a while. But there were some experiences I had with them that I wouldn’t like to repeat. But the last one was very good and I really liked those guys that came out. When they got here and found out that the repair was not covered, they still tried to work with us. They knew we were elderly and they were not trying to take advantage of us. Working with them was very positive.

I had a good experience in my claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioning. I called and inquired about it, and a contractor came. They were very nice, did the job fairly quick, and then left. We haven't had any problems and the AC is working now. Having American Home Shield is worth it. It's very easy to submit claims and contractors are out the next business day. We didn't wait for hours.

The air was not getting cool. It was just constantly blowing hot air. We got in touch with American Home Shield and it took a while. I had to go through so many steps and get put on hold. The first time, it was sent to a contractor who didn't service the area and they said that if they did come out, it would be a couple of weeks. I couldn't wait that long because I had a sick relative that we needed air-conditioning and their temperature was running in the 100. Then, AHS gave me another vendor and that vendor didn't service this area. They said it would be another week or two weeks or so before they could go out.
Finally, I told AHS they gotta give me somebody that can help me so, they gave me A-1 Service who came out and did a great job. The tech was friendly, professional, asked what problem I was having, and went straight to it. I would use them again anytime. If any other issues occur, I would want them to come back out. Having a home warranty is very, very valuable. I wish American Home Shield would get more people to assist because there has been a certain time in the day that I would call and it would be a long, long wait time. I would sit on the phone for, at least, over an hour waiting for a rep to come. But I would recommend AHS.

At first, I was hesitant but the three times that I’ve used this, it turns to be very easy. When we submit the claim, within 24 hours, I get a call from somebody that was gonna do the job. The three contractors came in. They were all on time, did the job, and explained what they did. I’m happy with it so far and it has been good overall.

The AC wasn't running and the fan had stopped running. I called on the telephone to submit a claim with American Home Shield for that. When I spoke with the reps, the customer service they offered and their level of knowledge were very good. Comfort First Heating and Cooling was the contractor that was sent out by AHS. They were very good and they let me know what was going on. They said the condenser coil of my AC unit was bad. They ended up putting a new unit in. AHS suggested that they replace the whole unit because just to replace one part would have cost $3,500 and then they would have had to add the Freon. AHS said that in the long run it was better to get the new unit.
It took two to three weeks from the time I called until the time Comfort First got the work done and approved because they had to do something for part of it and they had to get a permit. When they first put the new AC unit in, I had a couple of problems, such as when the pipe was clogged. I called Comfort First and they came back two or three times. They got the AC all straightened up and everything is great with its performance now.

I called it in and there was a bit of difficulty getting the rep I spoke with to understand what it was I was talking about, but once we got through that, I had no issues with the plumbing service they sent out or having the work done. The contractors were great, professional and very nice. The guys came in, took care of business quickly, and addressed the issue. They ran a snake from the washer drain in the wall up to the main on the side of our house. I thought that while they were there, they would run a snake through each one of the cleanouts to make sure, but the guy said that this claim just covers out one issue. I wish it had been a more thorough check of the entire system, but I was satisfied with everything and I’d still recommend AHS.

Save your money and sanity & don't use American Home Shield. Difficult to schedule service calls and, once scheduled, they send inferior contractors who don't know how to identify and fix issues. Was charged close to $500, because HVAC/heating issue wasn't covered under the warranty. (Of course it wouldn't be!) The tech wasn't gone for thirty minutes when the system stopped working again - money down the drain. And then he said it wasn't an HVAC problem but an electric issue, but of course he wouldn't return the $$.
Took a week for electrician to come out and he said it wasn't an electric issue but HVAC. Arrrrggghhh - another 4 days for a service call. Meanwhile, no heat and freezing temps. This has already been going on for 2 weeks so I called a local service company, they came out within an hour and diagnosed & fixed problem. Immediately called AHS to cancel contract - they bent over backwards to try to convince me to keep contract, but totally not worth it.
Good afternoon Maddy,

Updated on 12/13/2018: Another visit was made on 12/11. The tech was scheduled for 2-5 pm. He showed up at about 7:30 pm. After working on the unit for an hour and a half he determined that the new parts ordered would not work. Another technician came on 12/13 with another new part. He was finally able to complete the job. AHS customer service has responded to my first review and is providing a refund of the $125 incident charge. While this is a step in the right direction AHS has not called me when promised and done nothing to expedite approvals and shipment of parts.
If handled properly this probably would have been about a $500 job contracting directly with a local vendor and been completed in a week or less. Taking into account the monthly AHS fee and incident charge how did I fare? Not a huge saving even with the incident charge waived balanced against the time wasted in having to be here for the three 3 hour visit time frames plus the visit time itself adding up to well over ten hours. Then there is the discomfort of trying to keep warm for five weeks without central heat in temperatures dipping into the '20s at night.
Original Review: I had a furnace blower motor failure. No heat. Requested service online with AHS on Saturday 11/10. Because of holiday heating contractor called me on 11/13 and had tech visit on 11/14. Heating contractor had to get approval from AHS to proceed. They sent e-mail to AHS on 11/15. On 11/20 contractor said they were waiting for response from AHS. When I called AHS they lied and said that they had just received the request on 11/20 and had given the go ahead to the contractor so they could order parts.
AHS should have given ok on 11/15 when they received the approval request. 5 days was lost. The contractor made a second visit on 11/27 and discovered some additional parts are needed. Another delay for a week. These parts are shipped locally in state via Pony Express. AHS would provide no assistance in expediting parts delivery. By the time my furnace gets fixed I will have been out of heat for almost a month. We are in our 80s. This is unacceptable service.
Good afternoon Ed,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have your heating system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the repairs completed.

I have had AHS on my old house for over 5 years and when we purchased our new home, I was adamant to tell the seller that the only home warranty I'd accept with AHS because of our previous experience with them. Beginning 7/12, we opened a case with AHS due to no air coming out of our vents and not being able to cool down the house in our Sacramento weather of over 100 plus degrees every day. AHS sent a technician that took over two weeks to come look at the problem, a month later we were still waiting for follow up from this company to fix our 'leaking ductwork', only for the company to call us and tell us they have only ONE technician and he's hospitalized and they can't do the work.
Following up with AHS (Mind you hours of hold times and explaining over and over to reps what's going on that don't seem to be on the same page), they sent out ANOTHER company to diagnose the problem on 8/27 - this company then indicates there are NO ISSUES and we shall live with no AC. Fast forward to 10/14, the company sends out a 'second opinion' that turned off our furnace ALTOGETHER indicating we have a fire hazard. (YES FOLKS, we're now in winter and not able to heat up the house!) Only for weeks later after not hearing from anyone and AHS being confused on who's supposed to do what work, AHS tells us this last company they sent indicated that our Unit is 'too small' and that's why we are not receiving any air.
Fast forward to this past week, thinking okay, maybe the furnace is too small, we have hired three competent heating and air companies to give us a quote on 'upgrading' the furnace and fixing the ductwork and taking a look at the AC unit. ALL THREE COMPANIES indicated to us that the furnace is hazardous and on its last breath. However IT IS indeed the correct size for our house (we learned we have 4 ton unit with an output of 80,000 BTU/HR good enough for 2500-3500 sq. ft. with 1650 CFM - PLENTY for our 2300 sq. ft. of space).
They indeed found leaks in the ductwork and a kink in the AC line coming out of the house and into the AC pump outside. All these issues summing up to our problems, all three companies had the same solution which is to replace the furnace, fix the duct work and replace the line to AC unit. I'm not sure how THREE companies that AHS sent did not see this; we cannot afford to replace the furnace which is why we have a warranty. I plan to take all legal remedies to solve this problem.

I've had them for about 18 years on my current property. But be aware what you are getting. They have 20 loophole on how not to pay for items. Their contractors are the guys in town that can't get business from anyone else. Example, you have a kitchen exhaust fan go bad... If they cannot get parts from your manufacturer then they will offer half of what is costs for replacement (claiming they have volume purchasing benefits). Or they offer you a non matching brand replacement. Now... they don't guarantee that the replacement offered will work... and the contractor won't tell you if it will or won't so that's all on you, good luck. I could go on and on with countless examples. So decide if you can deal with all the crap and read the fine print that changes often.

The first company they sent out also had no experience working with our brand of dishwasher, even though they ask for the brand name when you make the service request. As a result, the first company was not able to fix the dishwasher. They said they would send someone else out the next week. And who showed up at our house, the same worker from the week before who knew nothing about the dishwasher and said "I tried to Google this, but I still can't figure it out."
We then asked for a second company to come out, and when the company called, the owner said he also had no experience with our brand. We have been calling daily to check for updates. No one communicates anything with us (the dishwasher company and AHS included). I literally have no idea how they stay in business with their inadequate communication skills and false promises. I even found out through my many calls that more than half of the calls I have made were not documented. They won’t even implement a new water heater. They told me that they needed to change a lot of stuff. But I felt like they were just tricking people. I requested to get the cash and went through my own licensed plumber, and he just changed a part of the heater. It took two months to get the money to me though, and AHS only gave $500. Even a new water heater is around $750.
One more thing. When I needed to speak to a representative, I had to hold for a minimum of one hour. There is an option for a new sale or for service. If I choose the option for sale, somebody would pick up the call within two minutes. But if you need to do a customer claim and you choose the option for service, you would wait more than one hour.

I have a tenant in the property that is covered by my AHS warranty and if the tenant has a problem, they call AHS then they get $45 copay. They give that to AHS then AHS calls the tenant and arranges the time and date of the repair. In the past, within three or four days, it was done. But this time, they kept saying that the tenant didn’t tell them about it and that they just found out about it. It took almost over three weeks to process that last claim even though I spoke to AHS, gave them the information they needed, and I asked them to do it as the way we’ve done it in the past. But the work is completed now.
Other than that, I never had a problem with the guys who came to fix our problems and AHS has been very good. Sometimes, the tenant has to wait for their call and doesn't get any answer from them. But in the past, they would call me and kind of give me a heads-up on the progress on the job. I liked that and I'd like to get that again from them. They can call me by all means as I wanna be involved. Also, I bought my credit card but I told them not to use it for the claims because the tenant will give them their credit card. But AHS has done it a couple times and I had to call them on that then get money back because it ended up doing double payment from the tenant. And I told them that I bought my card there just in case things go awry or they can’t get hold of the tenant. I prefer to talk to reps when I file a claim with AHS and the customer service is fine. At one point in time, you would have to be on hold for an hour. I timed it. I was on hold for an hour and 19 minutes one time just to be able to talk to a rep. But that since has gotten better. They assign a contractor within a day or two. I try not to use Ball’s as their contractor because they don’t always do the job the way they're supposed to do. Usually, I go with another company. Sometimes Ball’s can be a hit or miss. They have to come back and redo a job.
I'm dealing with an issue right now, that’s almost been a month with this particular company. I started the process on 11-6, and we're at 11-28, and the job still hasn’t been completed. But someone’s coming out today. They said it needed a senior tech. Also we have to deal with the timeframe of the parts to come in. It's unfortunate that when it happens in holidays it's taking at least four to five to get the part in, and then it takes a day or two for them to schedule an appointment. For instance that the part came in Monday. They called me Monday while the guy was here Tuesday because I told them I do have special needs in my home, and we actually needed to do that.
If they have to switch to a different service company, then they do, but I constantly contact them. And in some matters, depending upon the time frame, it has been expeditious. If they can not have you on hold, it may be far beyond their control. If it's not too long to speak to a customer service rep to book a service call, then that will help a whole lot. But I have been able to call back and get into some areas so it depends on the service needs.

I was with American Home Shield probably for about 10 years. I also paid for coverage on a house in Florida that was my son's and I gave him an American Home Shield contract for a Christmas present one year. When he used it, it was his air conditioner. Their policy is if they couldn't fix it, then they would replace it with the same quality or better. In that particular case, they didn’t put in a unit big enough to do his house. The outside unit that they put in was smaller capacity than the one that he had and it never cooled the house right. My son had to put four fans down in his house in order to cool the house off. I was very dissatisfied with that and so was he. So, I dropped the coverage on his house and my own for a couple of years and went with another company and they were horrible.
The most recent claim we had with AHS was for my air conditioner. They promptly sent someone out here who came the next day. They repaired two condensers and everything has been good. The only problem I have is that I signed up and it's a $100 deductible, but then they always charge me $6 more and say it's sales tax. It was never explained to me that I would be charged that and I don’t think it's right. I realize it's not a lot of money but it's the idea of it.
I recommended American Home Shield to someone and she called up and took a policy with them. AHS used to give a free consultation fee if you called up and recommended somebody. They would give a $60-credit and you could use it if you had a problem towards paying for your co-pay, but they no longer do that, which I don’t think is fair. If you're gonna recommend somebody, you should be able to get something out of it. So, I don’t even bother to recommend them anymore for that very reason. Although, I don’t have a problem with them. I like them.

There was a leak underneath the sink and I just called AHS and explained what was going on. They just said that the technician should call me within 28 or 48 hours. The technician was awesome. They were on-time. They came out when they said they were gonna come out. Even though they kinda explained to me what was going on, they kinda went in and out the other ear. But they were trying to explain to me about it. They just had awesome personalities. They were very professional. I would recommend them to anybody. The sensor sink has been functioning fine and I was satisfied. The warranty has been extremely valuable. I love it. If it wasn’t for me having that warranty, I don’t know what I would do.

My heater upstairs was broken, so the contractor AHS sent changed the filter. It was really fast. AHS typically say that they will contact us within 24 hours. It was less than 24 hours. We sent the claim Sunday night, and they called us back in the morning on Monday. One of the parts was ordered that Monday, and they were able to come back and install it that Wednesday.
Great Ghazal! I'm glad to hear that we were able to resolve your heater issue. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

My heating and air conditioning unit wasn’t getting any heat, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. The contractors went to our home right way and had done a good service. They didn't complete what they needed to do, but they came right back out again and fixed it without any delay. When I called them about it not working, they came right out and fixed it the next day. They had replaced the whole unit. I would recommend AHS to others.

Our AC was not blowing cold air. Whenever things like that happened, to submit a claim with American Home Shield I typically logged into my account and requested for service online and doing that was super easy. The contractor, Handyman Cooling Services, came out. Their techs were amazing. They were super nice and I love them. I have an older AC unit and it took a lot of effort because they went all the way down their checklist of what's normally wrong with it and they were there almost all day, but they figured out the problem and they were able to take care of it.
The only thing that we had a problem with was that for some reason the service call got double-filed when the contractor called it in. So, I had already paid for my service fee and then they wanted me to pay again. But then I called and that was fixed. The techs are coming out again this afternoon because now the heating part of the unit is not working. But our AC unit is 30 years old, so that might be part of it. Other than that, I wish AHS did septic stuff as it’s gonna cost a lot of money for that. Nevertheless, I would recommend them.

The pilot on my heating furnace wouldn't stay lit. I submitted a claim with AHS and they contacted Total Air Care. After they sent three different technicians and five invoices, the pilot still is not lit. Also, when I first contacted American Home Shield to submit the claim, I tried to do the same online. But something was wrong with my computer and their website kicked me out. So, I called and the lady was able to help me do one by phone and they were supposed to have cancelled the one that I did online.
But several weeks had gone by and my record was still showing that I had two claims even tho I only had one. So, the confusion came there because when the first two technicians came out, one came out for the central air and heat, and the other one came out for the furnace. But I told them that one of the repairs was cancelled. Then I received an email from American Home Shield weeks later saying that I had a past due balance of $100. I told them that that was paid but I came to find out that that was for the one that was supposed to have been cancelled. So, when I called them, their rep said that she was gonna cancel it. But still, if I call them now, my record still shows a hundred due balance. This miscommunication is frustrating. Plus, it's cold, my son is sick, and the furnace still is not working.
This has been going on since November 1st. They changed the thermostat on the wall and cleaned it out. One guy even put in a request to have our furnace replaced. But when the guy, Chris, came out to bring the furnace, it was too big and wasn't gonna fit. So, he cleaned it out. Then he said that there was nothing wrong with it. But there was something wrong because I'm still cold and the pilot light still won't stay lit. He also said that he was gonna come back out because I needed a thermocouple. He's thinking that that's why the pilot light won't stay lit. So right now, I'm very dissatisfied with AHS. After three invoices, wouldn't they make that decision to try to contact another company instead of sending the same company, a different person, and still no result?
Hi, Valicia. Thank you for the good news email that you sent today. Please let me know if you need anything moving forward.

I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim for my AC that quit working. The fan motor threw a blade and the AC produced cool air, but the fan wouldn't move. The first contractor who came out was fairly new and does not have a lot of experience. He got up there and he's a hefty guy to be getting up on the attic. But he listened to the AC and at that time, it was tough to tell what might be going on. It had an odd noise, but it was still running. He checked the Freon, and there was nothing done except getting a reading on my Freon. Then within a few weeks later, the AC was running but not cooling well and the noise was getting worse, and all of a sudden, there was a loud clunk, and the whole unit shut down.
The first person who came didn't detect the problem that existed. It manifested itself by the fan coming apart, shutting the motor and the whole unit down, which meant the compressor too. It also meant that I no longer had any refrigerant either, which wouldn't matter because I had no fan to move the cool air. So, I called AHS and asked them not to send the same person back out. The second tech knew what he was doing. In fact, he had to disassemble the fan motor and he showed me what happened. That's how I finally knew about it. The tech had to wait for two days to get the replacement part but he was able to resolve the problem. My latest experience was a bitter pill to swallow since we didn't get it done on a timely manner and had inconvenience from it. But overall, I've had good experiences with American Home Shield.

The AC was not cooling the house and once I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, they got back to me in 48 hours. However, it took another week for the contractor to come in, look at the job and do it. It took a long time to get fixed and I ended up having to go through another company to come in and remedy the problem. On the third time, the guy came and did the exact same thing. It still didn’t fix it and he said he sent AHS a report. I called AHS to get another company and they were saying that it was fixed and everything was good. However, the guy who tried to fix it knew it wasn’t. There was a communication issue between AHS and them. AHS ended up going with somebody else and at that point, the guy came in and found the heater was stuck. He put a new panel on it to fix it and since then, it has been good.

I only had a warranty on my kitchen appliances which was with Sears. My friends kept telling me that I needed to have my whole house covered too and most of them had American Home Shield. They were telling me how little it costs to protect your whole house, your air conditioning unit, your electrical, your plumbing and all of that. So I told my husband about it and we had a little discussion. Maybe we should get the whole house done because we’re paying a lot of money. My friends said that if we had American Home Shield, we would only pay $59 or $60 for that, so we did it. We trusted our friends and they were right.
We joined American Home Shield and since then they send a workman out if we have a problem, get our things done, we pay our deductible, and we’re good. When we submit claims, my husband goes online and requests somebody and then we get a call. One time, we had an AC issue and American Home Shield sent out Comfort First, the only contractor that could fix it, knew what the problem was and explained what it was. We've had two AC people out four times in a couple of months to fix the unit but it would always go back to not working. It would work for a couple of days then break down again. I had a $1,500 part replaced the year before and a $1,000 part replaced a year before that.
When Comfort First came, however, their guy said that there was a part that needed to be replaced. After that, it has been smooth sailing ever since. We just paid American Home Shield our $100 deductible and it would have saved us a lot of money if I had American Home Shield before that AC issue. Overall, we’ve been very happy with American Home Shield and would tell other friends to give it a try as well. All of my friends who have it are happy with it and it has been great. I wholeheartedly recommend American Home Shield.
Hi, Lisa. Thank you for your positive feedback. Your friends gave you some great advice. We thank you for your patronage and hope to have a long relationship with you and your family.

The work was fantastic and I would definitely have him do work for me in the future. The only problem that we had was that he didn’t realize that I was an American Home Shield customer when he came, so he charged me the full fee for the work. I had submitted that claim online and the next day, the contractor was out. They were fast and professional. The only issue I had with the whole thing was that after they fixed it, they warrantied for only a certain amount of time and two days after it went out of warranty, the refrigerator broke down again. So I had to pay another $100 service call. If it would’ve broken down the day before then I wouldn’t have had to pay the $100 service fee. It seemed like it was the same issue. I have used American Home Shield for the past couple of years. We’ve had issues with our furnace and washing machine and they were great about getting someone qualified to my home in a timely manner. Everything there was positive. However I started receiving a charge on my account of 9.99 every month on top of my monthly premium. Sometimes twice a month. I called and they sent me transferred me to different departments to try to figure it out but nobody could. So I was forced to cancel my policy.
The problem after that is that I kept getting billed afterwards and whenever I would call to try to fix the issue, I just get transferred and put on hold and until I finally give up. Today I got a letter from a collection agency. So once again I called and just got transferred and put on hold. It seems like nobody knows what they are doing in the billing department. I’m so upset about this I would have given zero stars if they didn’t have good service up until that point. Very disappointed.

We have experienced extremely long waits (over 30 minutes) over the past 3 months when contacting AHS via phone to discuss repair problems. Each person (when you finally get a real person online) sends you to another number and you are again on hold, get a robot or are hung up on. The first excuse 3 months ago was the phone system was being updated however nothing has changed. I believe this is a scam as nothing gets repaired and AHS never communicates with the owner! I will give a very specific review of trying to get our stove and spa fixed in another review rating the company's unwillingness or the inability of those who take a phone call to help solve service problems.
This review concerns the dozens and dozens of phone calls I have made to at least a dozen of AHS' 800 numbers to no avail. The only number that answers on the first ring is the Sales Department who connects you to a service number where again no one answers or you are told you have a longer than 30 minute wait. When you agree with the robot to have the company call back, they don't! My husband and I are so angry we have wasted our time and money on this company who does not care about its customers! I normally do not write reviews especially bad ones, but am at my wits end to figure out how to talk to someone who can resolve our issues.

I was honest and told the rep that my condo association doesn't allow window A/C units but I would accept the $75 dollars return. That was in September. I still have not received the service fee. I am very disappointed in the recent service/dealing with AHS. My family and I arrived home on a Saturday to a home that had no heat. Keep in mind we live in Chicago and this was after Thanksgiving weekend. I called them right away and they submitted a claim. I had to call the contractor to set up an appointment. The contractor was supposed to be 24/7. I called numerous times and left messages (they finally returned my call on Monday). We kept trying until late into the night, no success. We called them the following morning (Sunday) still no answer. I called AHS back and explained our situation again. They said they will push it to their dispatchers and we should get a call back in 2-4 hrs, 5 hrs later I called them back. They then told me they will give me authority to contact my own contractor and get the work completed. By this time we now had close to 10inches of snow and it was 22 degrees outside.
AHS procedures requires an outside contractor to call them and get an authorization number before performing the work. This number has to be on the receipt. This must be done or when I submitted the receipts or I would not get reimbursed. After calling three different companies they either refused to deal with AHS or AHS required so much information that they could provide at the time they would not deal with them. After numerous calls back and forth with AHS we finally got someone to come out on Monday afternoon. This wasn't the end...they did not have the part so they had to come back the following day. I'm not totally disappointed with all the personnel I spoke with, I would recommend they revise their procedures for emergency services. When someone loses heat in the midst of winter it's imperative to get them back up and running.

Our garage door opener stopped working. Called AHS but no customer service representative was available without a long wait time. The recording suggested using the website instead. I followed instructions and was sent an email telling me a service technician would contact me. Two days later I got a call from a technician who could meet me that afternoon. I took off work to meet him at my house. He promptly informed me that my torsion spring broke and needed to be replaced. He said he would have to get permission from AHS to use new parts which he had on his truck.
He said in the past five months AHS began requiring him to use refurbished parts instead. He didn’t have any refurbished torsion springs and said they could take several weeks to locate. When he called AHS, they informed him that they were denying the claim. The policy listed two exclusions, the garage door itself and the track assembly. He was confused as the torsion spring is obviously not the door and is not part of the track assembly and does not even come into contact with the track.
As he is telling me this AHS calls me to deny my coverage. I objected and was told a supervisor would review the denial. In the meantime I spoke to the technician who said I could pay him directly for the service since it had to be done anyway. I paid him the full price he said AHS would have paid him to do the service. Took him 25 minutes and a $50 part to fix the door. I paid him the $200, thanked him and went back to work. By the time I got back to work AHS had already charged me $100 service fee for the service call. I called them to let them know they could cancel the service and that I paid it myself out of pocket. The customer service rep said she couldn’t refund the $100 even though they denied me service.
She gave me the Toll free number to call the correct department to get this charge reversed. The representative in that department was very sympathetic and agreed that the contract exclusion was very vague and misleading. She assured me that her supervisor had the authority to remove that charge and would call me later to discuss the situation. She called me about 8:00 that night to tell me that she reviewed the case and that she would not remove the $100 charge. I discussed at length with her how I felt it was unfair to charge me for service that was denied. She made it clear that only they can determine what is covered when the contract does not list it as an exclusion.
I explained I had already paid the full amount to the service technician. They told me that didn’t matter and that I had to pay them $100 just for filling out the web form to request help. No one ever called me to ask any questions about the problem from AHS. They just dispatched a technician. In the end, I ended up paying $300 for a $200 service. It cost me $75.99 every month for years to have a company then charge me another $100 just to tell me they don’t cover the items my warranty says are covered. This is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with in my life.

American Home Shield is on top of things and they do what they say they're gonna do. We’ve been with them for quite a while and I would never go to another company because I know what I got with American Home Shield. I have a friend whose hot water heater ran out and it cost over 1,200 bucks. I told her that if she would've had American Home Shield, she would've paid $75. She asked for their number so she could sign up. I gave her AHS' number.
I typically don’t have a problem with American Home Shield's reps when filing claims. They take care of me and I get off the phone. It’s pretty painless. I like specific contractors AHS has too. Typically, I have A & J Sales and Prescott & Sons. They could come to my house every day and not have a problem. They do what they’re supposed to do. They’re in and out.
But there's one contractor that I will not allow back to my house, Moos Plumbing. He was in and out of my house seven times before he said he was done but my faucets were still leaking. Most recently, I called American Home Shield since my dishwasher wouldn’t open or release soap. The contractor claimed to have fixed the problem, but it's still not fixed.

I've had had American Home Shield for a couple of things this year. One was with the replacement of the in-sink garbage disposal. I called them and within about 24 hours, I got a call from the local vendor who set up a time to come. They had been here several times for problems related to it but now, it was doing even worse. It was leaking. The guy came in and ordinarily, he has to call for approvals but it was leaking, it was old, and it was time to replace it. He called his supervisor and put stuff in his in-truck computer. He said if he had one in the truck and if he had approval, he would be putting in the new one that day. He did. It went in very quickly. It's not a complicated device. And he was out of here in 10 or 15 minutes and I had a good working garbage disposal.
The garbage disposal has been working fine. I am not a lover of in-sink garbage disposal, so I use it sparingly. I've learned some things along the way. When I first moved into the house with the garbage disposal, I really didn't use it and the repair guys who have come over the years have shown me that I have to use it and that stuff gets down in there even if it's little stuff. It has made my whole process of, not just cooking, but also getting things into the dishwasher or washing things in the sink much faster.
I've had varying experiences with AHS but what has been consistent throughout the 10 years is that American Home Shield delivers what it says it will deliver. So, I know what to expect when the vendors come, I know what the process will be, and I'm content to just have it go through the process. Also, having come from a place where it was not a common practice to the South where I'm at living now where it is a common practice, I am happy that I have the service. I encourage any of my friends who become transplants like I was, one of the first things is to get a home warranty plan. I can recommend American Home Shield because they're the only company I've used in the 10 years I've been in this house.

I've had American Home Shield for many, many years. I've had air conditioners replaced and ovens fixed. I had a GE oven that kept messing up, but at the time, we found out the technician was not really qualified to be working on that. He replaced the motherboard about three times and still didn't fix the problem. It was around the holiday and my wife is a baker, and it was aggravating not being able to use our oven. I had a friend that owned an appliance store and he stopped by one day. I said, "This guy keep fixing this, and it's not fixed." He said, "Let me look at it," and he looked at it and he said, "Oh, this is a $9 part. Something's wrong with your probe. I'll bring you one from my shop." He did and put it in and fixed it. I called the contractor about it and told him not to come back here. I called AHS too and told somebody that the man was incompetent and they need to really get somebody else.
I started with AHS in 1994 and stayed with them until 2009. I built a brand-new house and didn't need them the next couple of years because the appliances in the house was working. If I did have a problem, I'd just call my builder and he would send somebody to fix it, and it didn't cost me. But then, I bought this other house for my daughter to live in. It's a new house, but not brand-new, and I immediately called American Home Shield and had it covered. We've only used AHS here twice. Once for plumbing and the other time for the washing machine that would not drain. AHS sent the contractor and fixed it. So far, I'm satisfied with AHS and will renew as I usually do. If someone would ask me about American Home Shield, I'd tell them to get it. As a matter of fact, over the years, I have told a lot of people to get it.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for my air conditioning unit that was not working properly. And my experience with the contractor has been fairly positive. He was very professional, timely, and when we came across scheduling challenges, they’ve been willing to work with me. Sometimes the repairs take longer than expected because it has to go through American Home Shield's internal approvals, and whereas, the professional who comes would say, “Okay. This stuff here needs to be replaced, but I can't replace it because I need approval or we need to suck every ounce of energy out of this before I can replace it.” And in the process, it ends up costing me more.
And in the case of air conditioning, if something is not working and it needs to be replaced in three months, you might as well do it now, but the contractors won't because American Home Shield won't replace it while it's still working. You can see that it's on its last leg, but they won't change it. They won't do preventative. I wish they would change that a little bit and rely on the professionalism of the folks.
Hi, Zakir. Thank you for your overall positive feedback and we do appreciate the suggestions you have provided. Most HVAC companies do provide a preventative maintenance plan as most warranty companies are for actual failures.

I've had American Home Shield for many years and my husband files our claims with them online. Then, a contractor would call us, make an appointment, come out and fix it, we give them $100, and it's done. We called back for a broken refrigerator and AHS gave us $1,100 in replacement fee. That was great but it didn't cover even half of the new fridge since we spent almost $2,800.
When the 2 toilets with tanks in our property kept on dripping water, we were spending $400 in water bill. A gentleman from Peoples Plumbing came out to fix it and he was absolutely amazing. He was a young fellow, but I could tell he knew these things. As a matter of fact, he repaired one of the bathrooms and said that he would be back because it probably was not completely fixed. Sure enough, we called them back two days later and he came out again to rectify the problem. He sorta knew that what he did may not be going to last. But now, everything is perfect.

He fixed it but he had to come back a week later for the same problem. I had to pay again but it was not his fault. There were some kind of defects on the part that he put on which was an unusual situation. To fix it, he replaced the entire part.

I’m very dissatisfied with AHS and I was getting to the point of canceling. I filed a claim and received an email from them. They were very good about giving out the first email once I did the claim to set it up. I saw the number and the name of the company. I got to text them right away, then they wanted me to call in 24 hours. A woman called the next day and she scheduled the appointment the following day. She said it would be from 7:00 to 9:00 AM. I’m in California and it was 4:00 to 6:00 here. I woke up and I was ready for the phone call, but they didn’t call. I waited for 9:00 and I called the company a few times, but there was no answer. They should be awake or open because it was their hours. The message said that I must leave the whole dispatch number or they won’t be able to help me.
The woman I talked to didn’t call back that day at all. A guy called me at about 9:45 and said that he was running late. He didn’t call me during the window time that he’d be late but I told him to come on out. He came here and did the thing. There were a few outlets that were out, but he fixed only one. I wasn’t there, so I didn’t see him fix it, but my friend came to check it and she said that the other outlet wasn’t working. I texted the guy and he said to call AHS. I called AHS and spoke to somebody. That was on a weekend and the guy said they'd come back out again, but that didn’t happen.
The next day, the company called me once and I missed the call. I had the same problem that I had earlier when I called them. Nobody ever answered the phone. I think it’s one of those mobile companies where they wanna call you, but you can’t call them back. The woman also told me she was by herself so I think it is a very small operation. She didn’t call me at all until later in the day and she said that she couldn’t send the guy out the next day. She was very rude to me, too. I told her that this was the second time and it was upsetting. The outlet is sparkling and it needs to be fixed. It’s a bigger deal than a small outlet not working. She told me she didn’t have anything the next day and that I could call AHS.
I called AHS back again and I was on hold for over two hours, between getting on and getting off. After 47 minutes on hold, I hung up. Then I called back and tried a different prompt. I tested that a few times and I was on hold between 5 and 15 minutes, trying something else. It was horrible. I then ended up going online. I have been looking for another way to get back with them. There was a way to do it on Facebook and I was willing to try it out. They ended up giving me another company. The number they gave me sounded like someone’s cell phone number. I called a few times and nobody ever called me back. At this point, I have been waiting since last Thursday when I first called to get someone to come out and fix the problem. In this situation, I was already charged but I think I should be refunded. I’m gonna call my credit card company and dispute the charge.
The air conditioning problem was similar. AHS sent a company who called me and said, “We’re coming out tomorrow between this time and this time.” That day, they called me and said they couldn’t come and that they were gonna come the next day. The next day, the guy didn’t call when he came. He was supposed to call me so I could give him instructions. Supposedly, he knocked on the door. I was not home but my next-door neighbor was there for him. My next-door neighbor said the contractor didn’t knock on the door. The door is 2 feet away from my next-door neighbor. I called AHS back and they got another company who came out and fixed the problem. They were awesome. Also, when I called for plumbing, the contractor came out here right away and fixed the problem.
Initially, I was trying to find a home warranty company, and AHS was recommended to me by two people. I have a condo in Florida and I live in California. I had Service America and I didn’t really like them because it took a long time for me to get a hold of them on the phone, but they’re better than my experiences with AHS. I thought AHS would be more reputable, but they’re not vetting their contractors. They just send anybody who signs up. They should make sure the person or company they send has a good history.

The oven wouldn’t hold the temperature and American Home Shield sent somebody here to see what was wrong. The contractor said that he needed to replace some parts but the parts were gonna be really expensive. American Home Shield decided to replace the entire appliance. They had the Whirpool gas range delivered and Star Services came out and installed it. The two guys did a good job. One of the guys was very nice but the other one had a bit of an attitude. This is my home and he told me that I needed to be quiet and let him do his job. I reminded him that he was in my home. Nonetheless, they did the job they were sent to do, so that’s all I wanted.
My experience in submitting claims was okay. It’s just that AHS is like a lot of big companies wherein they run their call services out to different countries. And so, I had a hard time communicating with the lady that I spoke to. It was a little bit hard to understand her at times. That was not a big issue, but we didn’t communicate really well. I'm going on two years now with American Home Shield and so far, their work has been of excellent quality. A-1 came out and looked at the water heater. They determined that we needed a new water heater and the man said he would call Home Shield and get the okay and let them know what was going on. He said he would have to go get it and come back in a later day, either the following morning or later that evening if he was able to and he would give us a call. That was what he did. American Home Shield sent someone out to look at our refrigerator. Then they said they were gonna try putting a part in, and let it snow, in a few days. So they did and one of the boxes wouldn’t get to the coldest. So we called back, and they said, “Alright, we’ll come back out. We have to schedule it. We’ll call you back,” and they didn’t. So I called AHS and said, “They’re not coming out. They’re supposed to come out. We’re without a freezer in the refrigerator.”
AHS dispatched a different company who said they couldn’t find the right part for it and we need a new refrigerator. AHS gave me the amount that they would pay and I went out and bought it. They sent me a check two weeks later. It all worked out real well. But the claim before that was for the air conditioner. I’ve been getting bills and emails from them, needing the $125 service fee. When he came in, he introduced himself and asked me where I thought the problem was. I showed him where I was hearing the running and he checked it out. Then he told me what they thought it was.
It actually wasn’t even a leak. We’ve been in this house for a year and there was an outside faucet on the side of the house that we never even go to. I’ve had my yard guys and somehow, the faucet was just turned on. I didn’t even know that was over there because I never go to that side of the house. So the contractor found that and it was simple. The second contractor's tech came, inspected all the appliances and said he would order the parts and come back. However, he didn't show up and the contractor wouldn't answer any phone calls.
During the entire process for six weeks, I have made a call with American Home Shield almost every three days. It takes half an hour to get on the line because it's a long wait. The music is on and then finally someone comes in. Even so, their reps don't have proper record keeping. They would also ask me if I was sure that the contractor I am talking about is the contractor assigned. I would say yes and then they would check and confirm that I am correct. They don't have proper tools and it's very painful.
For six weeks, my appliances are down. One day, the contractor came with the part which was the magnetron. Then, he told me that he would need another person to change that part and that he would come back the following day. The plumber who came out identified the problem. I had also called eight different plumbers and explained to them the problem over the phone. In May 2018 I called for regular maintenance on my two AC units. I was told that I needed two new units, and mine were 15 years old. They said that there a huge leak and all the coolant was gone. The unit was so old, and so much would need to be replaced. He said it would cost as much to repair as replace. I called AHS and requested assistance with our AC units. We live in Phoenix, Arizona and the summers here are super hot! The AC unit would not cool. They sent a technician out from some 3rd rate company who said it needed a new compressor. I asked for a 2nd opinion, as this did not agree with my usual maintenance contractor. They sent a second person out, who said they would not replace, and that he agreed with the first one they sent.
I requested assistance again, and they sent the first one out, and he said that now it needed R-22 coolant and new coil. He came back with materials a few days later. He was up in the attic for half a day. He took wood up there and some other parts I didn't see. The unit seemed to cool, but would not go lower than 78. He charged me over $1000.00 for parts AHS would not cover. I reported this to AHS, but they said they would charge me again to have someone come out again. Fast forward to November. I request my fall service from my usual company. They go up to the attic, come back down with pictures that AHS technician used wrong parts, gaps and holes everywhere. American Home Shield advertises on the premise that you protect yourself from unknown costs of home repairs. I have been a customer for approximately 15 years and that used to be true, however, I had 2 claims this year and I was still hit with unknown costs even though I have the warranty. I put a claim in for my central air unit in May 2018 and it is still not resolved. Initially, the company they sent said I needed freon which isn't covered so I had to pay $200 in addition to the $100 service. My unit still didn't work after a couple weeks and the company was called back for a recall. This time they said that it couldn't be fixed and needed to be replaced which in my opinion was the case the first time they came out.
They said that it was going to cost $125 in modifications which wasn't covered by the warranty. They then came back and said it was going to be $375. When they called to schedule the install the technician the amount that was given was incorrect and it was going to be $550. I told him not to come and contacted AHS. They contacted the company to verify the amount and was told $375 but I then got a call from AHS a few weeks later stating that it was going to cost $585. It is now winter in Chicago and I still don't have my central air unit fixed and they are stating that it will likely have to wait until the spring. The other service call I had was for my hot water heater. Again, I was told that modifications aren't covered and the company they sent out said that it would be $500 in modifications.
Another unknown cost for something that is supposedly covered by the warranty. I had another company come out to fix the hot water heater and guess what, there were no modifications needed. I chose to take the cash in lieu so that I could choose my own company and they were only offering $496 to purchase and have the hot water heater installed. Needless to say, that was even close to what it cost me to have it installed. I paid my own company $700 for the service and I'm still waiting to receive the $496 back from AHS. You will have unknown cost with AHS so don't be fooled thinking because it's covered by the warranty that you won't have to come out of pocket because you will.

I hope this review gets a response from AHS. I started with a positive experience with a refrigerator repair. Then my faucets were leaking. Called them multiple times, I don't know who is trying to make money (contractor or AHS) but this whole experience is VERY FRUSTRATING. I'm in Engineering Customer Service and this is not so right. All they are trying to do is band-aiding without fixing it (sometimes it stops leaking for a few minutes and then drips again). I don't understand the logic of sending some many times to band-aid to save money but ending up spending more man-hours to fix something so trivial, I have spend about 6-8 hours so far (call wait times, talking to folks, waiting at home for the scheduled visit). 2 visits so far, not completely fixed! Now they have scheduled someone to come again and I think they will try to band-aid again.
Loss of my time, my BP going up, and frustrated. AHS, if you have a flat tire, do you fix it or run your car with spare all the time? That's what you are expecting to do. I don't know if your vendors are trying to milk you out but your customers are not happy. I usually don't bad mouth anyone, but if I did, there is something really wrong.

Our old microwave stopped and was not working at all so I called American Home Shield. We had to pick several different ones that were included in the package to replace it. It was probably about a week before anybody actually showed up. But we were busy choosing the correct microwave and so forth. So, I was not disappointed.
The tech had to mount it three times because the guy wasn’t accurate in the way he was mounting it, which caused us a problem. We had to rip out some tiles in the kitchen, which we weren’t expecting to accommodate the microwave because it was a little different size. At one point, he was ready to walk out and leave us with nothing because I didn’t know how to rip out the tiles and he wasn’t willing to. We had to wait for a tile guy. So, I just grabbed a screwdriver and ripped out a whole layer of tiles so he would get out of here. His assistant who was with him was much more accommodating. It was a less than great experience.
Once I ripped out the tiles, he was willing to finish the job and then they left. The end result is we have a microwave. It’s not quite the quality the one that we had, but it has almost everything that it did and it works. Just the one performance was a disappointment, but it hasn’t soured us on American Home Shield. We've had them for many, many years up in Phoenix and now I’m here in Tucson. Overall, we’ve been very pleased with the performance and their ability to respond to what the problems are. I have recommended AHS to folks who have asked, numerous people over the years.

I recently filed a claim for my heater. I sent the request online and they had somebody come out very quickly so their response time was good. The initial repair person was excellent, very professional and very ingenuous. He referred me to a salesperson from their company and that's the person that I had a problem with. The heater hasn’t been repaired yet. I don’t feel like the company they sent was trustworthy. I spoke with somebody from AHS. They said that they were gonna call me back with some information about like a cash claim with them but I never heard back. AHS is generally pretty responsive but use caution.
Good afternoon Andi,
Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience when placing a request online. In regard to to the repairs, I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting them completed.

I have to take my washing machine apart to clean up the trap. I filed a claim to American Home Shield, did it online and a person called and made an appointment promptly. The contractor came by the very next day, cleaned it out and was gone within 30 minutes. Also, I had a refrigerator issue and AHS replaced almost every part on it. It was still was not working correctly so they replaced it. In order to get the same company out each time, I had to call AHS. Unfortunately, that process takes forever. The shortest time I'm sitting on the phone was an hour waiting to get the same contractor out because they already knew what parts they replaced and I didn't have to have a new person come out and have a new idea each time.
So far, everybody that has come out here has been wonderful and quick. The slowest person was when I needed my hot water heater fixed and unfortunately, they couldn't come out for five days so I was taking cold showers. Thank God it was 110 degrees here. Overall, I've had a good experience with AHS. My only complaint with them is being stuck on the phone when you need somebody to talk to. They said they've been trying to resolve that issue, but so far I have not seen luck with that yet.

The first time the contractor for my ac called, they said it was a heat reverse pump, so they would have to order that, and AHS approved it. Then I had to pay $550 in Freon because they had to replace that reverse valve. The heating worked for one day, and then the next day when it was kicking on, it was blowing cold air. I had the house set at 73 and the house was 66. So I called them up and the contractor came yesterday. It was from two to six and the guy called me up at around 4 o'clock, stating that he was gonna be late. I was thinking he was gonna be late around 7 o'clock or 8 o'clock. But he didn’t call me until 10:57 at night saying that he wouldn't be able to make it. He was gonna make it a recall.
So this morning I called and asked them what was going on. They said, "The earliest appointment we have right now is Monday at 12 to 4." So I said, "Not a weekend, another four or five days that I have to go without heat." So Total Air is not coming through at all. But I've had AHS for years and they never messed me up like this. This is the first time.

Our experience with American Home Shield has been good but we had the issue with the company that they had that came out. It looked like the company was just using AHS to get the $100 then run, because the company gave me a terrible quote which was about $2,200 and $1, 800 was not covered by AHS. Then we got another company who gave us a fair quote and we went with them. But then, there was $100 in there that they said they were gonna take care of, and it has been floating around on the account. Also, the chiller that they put in wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. The house takes a little while to cool down, where before, it worked better with the older one.
Another issue was the autopay on the website has never worked, and we've had issues every month. So I've gotta call in every month, and then I've got to be on hold for like 20 minutes to make my payment because the website doesn't work. I'm hesitant to give them a card and tell them to just do the autopay because it hasn't worked as of yet. I've also gotten conflicting reports. I've called in people and they said they'll take care of the issue. And then, I talked to someone, and I was told that it's just on there and that I'm being credited and it'll come off in a few months. Other than that, with the service, it worked great with the AC unit.

My ac started leaking and it wasn’t working at all. I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone, and the contractors were nice enough, but could not figure out what the problem was, and claimed that they needed increased access to be able to fix the problem. We needed to have a separate contractor come in and punch holes in our wall, but then it would have to have been repaired, for them to be able to figure out what was going on. We called for a second opinion. The next contractor who came out diagnosed the problem without difficulty, and ultimately, was able to be fixed without making any holes in the wall.

I've been with American Home Shield for eight years now and they're easy to deal with. They give me peace of mind. When our upstairs heat pump was not working, I had no air so I put a claim in online. That was easy and American Home Shield sent United Temp out. The contractor was in the house for two and a half hours. He was troubleshooting it and telling me what was going on, what the issue was then what the options were to fix it. It was just replacing the thermostat, programming it and making it functional. He also helped me program it. It was a wireless thermostat and he explained how to use it. Everything has been good since then.

I've had a couple of claims with American Home Shield and they’ve all worked out great. One time, I had a problem with the garbage disposal not working. It was making the water kinda backed up a little bit and it was going out slowly in that sink. That was a bother to me when I'm trying to do dishes and I was worried about running the dishwasher even because of that because I didn’t know what was maybe stopped up in there or whatever. I also had a claim when my bathroom sink was clogged. I called AHS and they immediately got my information and called back. It was automated and they called back right away with the name of the contractor and a phone number. They took care of the problem on the same day.
I had used the company they sent out before. They had sent them out when I had a problem with the garbage disposal before. So, I had some experience with that company, but it was a different technician and they were great. They were professional when they called, gave me several options of times that they could come out, and they were here early. They were efficient and gave me some tips on how to keep my sink from clogging again. I'm always very satisfied with AHS's service. I recommend to all my friends who are homeowners that they get American Home Shield.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a pilot light on my hot water heater. I did it online and the process was very easy. That was the second time I made a request from them. Usually, they would respond in a day or so. If I submit the claim before the end of the day, I'd get a response from AHS. And then, I'd get a response from whomever they assigned the claim to. My interactions with their contractors were good. They have been very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. I've only been with American Home Shield for a year or two, but so far, the experience has been positive.

I had an issue with the furnace and when the first cold came, I didn't have any heat. After four days of no heat, American Home Shield sent out Comfort First Heating & Cooling. It was a control panel and they fixed it. A week later, the thing went out again and they sent another guy and they didn't charge me for it. He found another electronic part that was bad so, he replaced it. Three days later, it went out again. The third guy came and said there was a different electronic part that went bad. Since then, it has been three weeks and it has been working great.
Also, when the garage door wasn't closing, I called American Home Shield and the next day, they sent out somebody to repair it. They put in tiny screws and the guy said it was a good thing I called, otherwise, the whole thing would have dropped down my head. Then, there was a pipe that broke inside the wall. I had to shut off the water. A young lady that works at American Home Shield said she was going to try to find somebody and she couldn't no matter who she calls, they wouldn't answer it. So she said I could get a contract on my own and I did. But she forgot to tell me that I was supposed to have those people call American Home Shield to get an authorization number. They fixed it and it was $400 plus.
The second time, I talked to a young man and he went and looked at our recording and said that the first rep didn't tell me that. I'm waiting for my refund check to pay for the outsource people. I would prefer that they would have let me know, so I would have peace of mind. Also, they keep raising my rates all the time, but it was in the $40 when I first started a few years ago. Now, it's in the $60. Otherwise, American Home Shield has been really good to me. I've had good experiences.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, my refrigerator stopped working for third time, for the exact same problem. I've talked to the repairman twice already. You could hear the compressor running all the way but it was not getting cold. So, Monday morning I put in a request with American Home Shield. You have to put it in online since they don’t even tell you their phone number. You can go on the website and try to find their phone number. I've been with AHS for three years, and it takes 24 hours to get a call back, which has been the way they’ve done it forever.
I got a call back on Tuesday. The lady that I talked to was fairly nice and she told me that they were not gonna be able to have somebody come out for more than a week. I told her that that was not gonna work since it was Thanksgiving and I got food in the fridge. How can you not have a refrigerator for over a week? It was completely unacceptable. She told me that they might have an opening on Friday, but there was no way she could promise that. She then asked me what I wanted to do, so I replied that they gotta get somebody out here. It was two days before Thanksgiving. She said that she was gonna put my request back in the queue and maybe they would be able to find somebody else to come out sooner. So, here’s where the whole thing goes off the train tracks.
I didn’t hear from anybody the next day. So, I go online, pulled up my account, looked to see about my open request, and there was nothing. I tried to find a number, called customer service, and finally got a phone number and called in. The first time I called, it took forever to get somebody to answer the phone, then I was on hold for over 20 minutes, and they just clicked off and hung up on me, which was exactly what happened in the last seven times I've used them. So, I called back, I was put on hold again by some chick that you couldn't understand a word she said. It was like 19 minutes and 50 seconds, and it hangs up on me again.
At the time I was on the phone, they have a little chat thing that you could click on online. So, since I'm sitting there doing nothing for 20 minutes, I clicked on the chat thing, and got a rep. I told her that I was currently on hold for the second time, AHS just hung up on me, I have a refrigerator that doesn’t work, and the kitchen floor is covered with water from the melted ice before. I went through all this stuff with this girl on chat and magically, it said, “Disconnected. Check your internet connection.” I was on my computer with five things opened and I have no problem with my internet connection. They just constantly don’t wanna listen and they hung up on you. AHS already took the money out of my account, they got nobody come, my fridge still doesn’t work, and I haven't heard from anyone.
When it was 115 degrees in Phoenix and both the air conditioners go out in my house. It was a nightmare. At the end of the deal, AHS denied paying me because I had to get another vendor to come do it because they could find anyone. They said, “If we don’t contact you, you have permission to contact another company.” And then, they give you a list, which is basically, every company in the phonebook that you're not allowed to call. I found somebody else that’s a legitimate contractor, checked out all of his stuff, and he's not on their list. I called him up, then AHS told me that the contractor needs to call them before he could work on the unit. So, he calls, same deal, on hold for 45 minutes, and finally talks to somebody. They told that he needs to take apart, see what's wrong with it and then call them back. So, he did that.
We called back, 40 minutes on the phone, and the girl told him that he called the wrong number and that he needed to call another number. But nobody would answer. It just ring and ring and ring. So, I told the contractor to go ahead and fix it. He tried calling for the next two days, and finally talked to someone, and they sent me an email saying that it wasn’t approved, so they weren’t gonna pay for it. I had to go through the whole Better Business Bureau, ConsumerAffairs, attorney general, and it took me three months to get a check back.
American Home Shield also sent out their guy to fix my dishwasher, told me that it was too old, and they couldn’t fix it, and they would give me 50 or 75 bucks towards a new one. It's a stainless steel, Jenn-Air, $500 dishwasher. They wouldn’t fix it, but they still charged me the 75 bucks. So I called a random person and he came out, ordered a part, came back, and fixed it in 10 minutes. The whole repair cost me 120 bucks for him and the service call. The dishwasher still works today perfect and it's been another two years past that experience.
I have a rental house on the other side of Phoenix and I cancelled them. They called and begged me to renew, but I refused. If you go online, there are whole websites and Facebook pages about American Home Shield and how horrible their customer service is. They won't answer the phone, they won't call anybody back, and they won't show up in a timely fashion.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

They’re very good and we had an excellent interaction. They didn’t jerk around and were professional and well-versed in what they were doing. They got to solve the problems, took care of it, and was on their way. I got my washer working again and we’re now able to do what we need to do. When my circuit breaker kept resetting, I filed that claim online and the website was very easy to use. A contractor came out in four days and he made some fixes. But that didn't actually fix the problem and he never really diagnosed the problem. That was why I requested a second opinion. The bulbs and all the light fixtures I had went into one circuit breaker and the second tech discovered that there was too many on that circuit. I had some high powered light bulbs and the wattage was too high. Now, it's fine.
Having the warranty allows me to have some peace of mind as far as how much I'm gonna get hit for originally. The only issue I have with American Home Shield is the Freon if something goes wrong with the AC. But that's something that they stopped doing. I guess the price of Freon went up so it was a pretty reasonable solution. Aside from that, I also have a rental property and the warranty allows me to manage the property myself and have someone to go out and fix stuff if it breaks. It is very valuable and I'd highly recommend them.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone for the refrigerator and it was easy to submit the claim. But it has been very hard to get any action from them. To get someone out to look at it was good, but it was just the replacement part that was not good. We paid the man to come out and it was a $100 fee. That was in early September and I still don't have a refrigerator. I tried to call and tried to get through on their lines. They're open from 7:00 to 7:00, but trying to get through their lines is like you're on the phone for an hour or more and I couldn't just stay on the phone that long.
Finally, they sent me an offer on the 23rd of October, but that was almost two months after the fact. And so, I didn't get that offer. Then, last week, before Thanksgiving, I called and they sent it to another email address. I responded and told them what we wanted to do and now, they've responded and told me they don't have any information on me about that. So, I had to send them back the information, the contract number, and all that.
I'm waiting to hear back from them and see what they're gonna say. They already said they were gonna replace it and we've already picked the refrigerator. It's just waiting. It has affected our day-to-day operations a lot. We are used to having two refrigerators. We would keep the other refrigerator with beverages and that kind of stuff, so I'm having to stack that on the outside. And the refrigerator that we have is small because it's just for beverages and there's no freezer compartment. I like American Home Shield, but they need to move faster. If they have that much business, they need to add more staff. Also, I'm sure they are a popular home warranty program and so, they need to respond quickly. If anyone asks about AHS, I would tell them that it's a good company.

I had put in a follow up claim with American Home Shield where the techs had to fix the rough opening of the job they did. It was part of an existing plumbing claim that they were closing out. They came to the conclusion that I had a heat problem because of a failed zone control board and a zone valve. They sent a plumber who then replaced those parts and left. The job got done on time. Andrew, the contractor who came for that issue, was a good guy. He was professional and diligent. He had to come back a few times because he thought it was one thing and it wasn’t, but that’s normal in my eyes.
There’s a problem now, however, because American Home Shield isn't gonna pay Andrew for his service. They said some of the components aren’t covered and he was supposed to call and get an authorization. I feel bad that he’s not getting paid. If I knew it would be this, I would not have used American Home Shield. I would have just called the plumber. American Home Shield also can't just give me a bill four weeks after the contractor did the work. I’m in a bad situation because at the end of the day, the contractor is a little high and dry. I understand American Home Shield's point but the kid himself resolved the problem. It was a little crazy, but outside of that, I’ve been pretty happy with American Home Shield. They’re cognizant of what’s in their contract and they do what they say. I’ve had a few situations where they did well. I would recommend American Home Shield, and I have.

I immediately called AHS in hopes of getting someone out as soon as possible, to which the customer service representative over the phone told me that she would expedite the request and someone would call me within 1-2 hours. 72 hours later, I finally got a call from a technician. I told the technician what the issue appeared to be and they advised me to call AHS back to see if they needed to send someone else out as well, as he was not sure he would be able to fix the problem entirely.
I immediately called AHS back and they advised me that they would contact the plumber I spoke with and tell him to come anyway as they needed his authorization/referral for any additional work. 24 hours went by and nothing had been done. No call from the plumber, no request submitted through AHS - so I called again. I told the customer rep that it had now been 4 days since the issue and I really needed something done and someone to come out to my house. The rep said they would put me on hold and determine what was going on - 5 min go by on hold and I am hung up on. So I call again - I explain the situation to the new rep and he says, "So the last representative put you on hold and then hung up? ", I reply saying yes, and he immediately puts me on hold with no notice and I am hung up on again. I have a hard time believing this was not done intentionally.
I call again - I explain the situation again and as I finish explaining the representative puts me on hold and then again, hangs up. I did not call back again, as it became clear they were hanging up on me intentionally because they did not want to deal with my case. I have had AHS for over a year and we have had over a dozen claim requests and so far, only 1 repair has been completed out of those claim requests. We purchased AHS shortly after we bought our first home. I don't recall having to call in for a claim for the first 4 months (Sept-Dec 2017), maybe 1 if that. However, from Jan-Aug 2018, we contacted AHS at least 8-10 times regarding our geothermal AC unit. AHS sent out technicians (plumbers and AC repairers) all 8-10 times who said 1 of 2 things "I don't know what this is" or "this is (ac/plumbing) work and not (ac/plumbing) work." The AC people telling me it's plumbing, the plumbing people telling me it's AC.
Meanwhile, the pipes from the unit are leaking water all over my garage, and the slow close water valve wasn't connected to the unit until individual #6, where the water was constantly running and causing us to pay over $100 water bills (from Jan-May). Unfortunately, AHS never found a company to service our unit and fix it completely. I had to go out and find a vendor, who indicated to me that they would not work with AHS due to non-payment from AHS in the past. So I purchased a new AC unit for $7700 because our warranty company could not find a vendor to fix our unit. I know it's not the responsibility of the warranty company to replace AC units so I moved on.
Forgot to mention, at one point when I called AHS to complain about lack of service on the AC, I waited for 20 mins for a customer service rep, then said customer service representative took 30 mins to "transfer" me to a manager, at which point someone picked the phone back up and hung up the call. Because I needed information on this service request, I called back and waited an additional 20 mins for a customer service rep, who ended up explaining to me that the original order placed was wrong and that I needed an entirely different service done. Then, in Sept 2018 we placed a call to AHS for our kitchen sink leaking. They sent out Matt's Plumbing Service, who looked at it, indicated it did need a new faucet, said they would order it and be in contact with us for installation.
Fast forward to late Oct/early Nov 2018, we had received no call from Matt's or AHS at which time we contacted AHS, who contacted Matt's, who contacted us with "I hear we still haven't repaired your sink" (very nice way to greet a customer who has water retaining under their sink, in the cabinets, due to their negligence). Within the same phone call, a representative with Matt's indicated they would have to call us back to schedule the install. Today is 11/25/18 and I still have not received a call from Matt's nor AHS about this kitchen faucet installation.
In addition, the 1 claim of which AHS was able to "fix" was our garage door electrical connection. But it wasn't really fixed. When we called to have our electrical looked at in the garage because our garage door stopped opening, the technician indicated AHS "probably wouldn't cover the installation" of a new electrical plug for our garage door, that they are notorious for this tactic with his company and he literally ran an extension cord to the plug where our washer is plugged in to "band aid" the garage door repair.
All in all, I hate that we pay monthly for a service we have literally not received any time we have called to have work done. I have called to cancel the service, but of course the customer service rep hits me with "just give us another chance" because they want the monthly premium but don't want to do the work they say they do. It's at this point that I have had two separate contractors tell me "AHS probably won’t cover this" so I'll take my monthly premium back and save it so I can possibly have money to fix repairs since AHS won't even fix repairs when I'm paying them to do it. This has been the worst experience and it's unfortunate because none of our family members have had any problems with AHS. They gasp at our issues and say "that has never happened to me." Well, it's happened to me one too many times now.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I had a swamp cooler issue and submitted that claim to American Home Shield online. Their online site was user-friendly. I was able to navigate and get what I wanted. The contractor that they sent was good. He kept me abreast to what they were doing. He was able to get the problem pinpointed right then because I just described over the phone what it was, and he knew exactly what I was talking about because they called me to schedule an appointment to come out. The first time he came out, there was an issue with that same appliance and same problem. A couple of weeks later, he had to come back. He came back and was able to take care of the problem the second time. The swamp cooler is working very well since then. I've been with American Home Shield for several years, so that shows that I am happy with them. I would recommend them and tell my friends to use them.
Hello, Angela. Swamp coolers can be difficult if the technician is not really skilled. Thank you for letting us know that our tech was able to get your unit working as it should.

Our water heater heated fine but when we were taking a shower, we'd end up cold. We called American Home Shield and within a couple of days, they sent someone out. They tested the heater and determined it was leaking inside the water heater. If they tried to change out the element or something that was broke, it would have stripped and they wouldn’t have been able to put one back in.
The guy recommended that we just get a new water heater which AHS approved. Several days later, the contractor came out to replace the water heater. That took about two hours at the most which was about what the guy told me. He was very courteous and nice. Everything got done. American Home Shield paid part of it and we had to pay a good bit but still, it was better than the whole thing. I was very satisfied and I would recommend AHS highly.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for my HVAC system and I also had the garbage disposal unit done. I submitted the claim for my HVAC system over the phone and the reps that I spoke with were helpful. The claim process was quick to get started and the contractor, Air 72, was awesome. They have been to my house and I've worked with them since I've had multiple issues with my HVAC system over the years. They're very polite people and they come on time. They deliver service excellence and get the job done.
For my claim with the HVAC system this time, I asked for Air 72 and the rep helped to assign the service job to them. But I was told that the code says part of my unit had to be replaced and AHS doesn’t pay for that. Most of the repair bill wasn't covered, which was distressing, and I would like to see AHS cover more than they did. But the performance of my HVAC system has been awesome since the repair.

Our air conditioner was making a rattling noise once we turned it on. This affected us because I had to overwork my other unit until I got it repaired. We called American Home Shield and my wife described what was going on, and she told them we wanted to get somebody to come out and look. The person from AHS told me that somebody would be contacting me 30 minutes before they got to my location. The contractor called and came out here, and he said I had a fan blade broken. He came out, measured it and put it in a work order with the company to get the fan blade replaced. The fan blade came in, but they found out that it was the wrong size. I had to reschedule another appointment to get another fan blade. The fan blade finally came in and they tried to put it on, but then they forgot to order the part to mount the fan blade. I had to wait another week or so for them to order the part.

I phoned American Home Shield to have some plumbing work done and gave my information. They set up a time for somebody to call me, and they came out. It was efficient. The contractors were professional, but they should put some covering on their feet when they come in the house instead of just walking outside and then coming back in. It wasn't like they made a mess, but we've had other people come out to the house through American Home Shield, and they'd go outside, come back in and put covers on their feet. It was that little extra thing that sets different companies apart. Outside of that, they did everything they were supposed to and the service was fine. Everything was fixed properly.
There was a follow-up visit and there was some extra work that had to be done due to the issue. I had to pay for that, so I went ahead, got that work done, and then they had to come back out. When they came back out, they were supposed to do another thing and they forgot about it. They left, and then they had to come back again. It was a little inconvenient and horrible, but the job was done. All in all, I've been with American Home Shield for 12 years and I'd recommend them.

All went very smoothly and happened in a very timely fashion when I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my high-end efficiency washing machine that wasn't filling very much. The claims reps did a good job and were very professional. We just moved in the house so AHS told us how to set the controls so that the washing machine would work efficiently andwe operated it the way people told us to. The guys said that it just uses way less water and power. My wife had to go back to push deep fill, and then it would fill tiny bit. She would then wait, go back, and do that for five or six times with each load to get about six rate inches of water in the machine. The guy said that that was how the machine was intended to work. You can put about fivefold amount clothes in it as you can on a regular machine but it didn't get the clothes clean, so we got rid of it. They should've paid for the brand new machine and have it wash 20% of load that my Maytag washes.
My wife was also not impressed because we spent $75 to have the guys only to tell her that the dryer was intended only to dry a couple of towels at a time. She's also been told by people that every time contractors come out, you wouldn't end up getting things replaced, so you'd just end up spending enough money that you'd stop calling AHS.

There was a TX valve stuck in the open so my AC system was always going full bore. It was freezing up because it couldn’t limit when the weather was not super cold so the technician was able to figure out what it was and get the part replaced. When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I use their webpage correctly and it's fairly easy. They sent me an email after I submitted it. But I can log in to the webpage with my user ID and password. There was a link to put in for service then I go in, then they send me an email saying that it’s been submitted for them to find a contractor to send out to me in 24 hours.
After they contact, usually it takes within 24 hours to get a contractor, and it's not long at all. After I call, someone usually is there. When we bought the house, AHS was the warranty that came with it. We liked it, and we kept it. Their contractors have all been good. They have been very knowledgeable and helpful. They resolve issues in a timely fashion. When a part needs to be ordered, the longest day to have it has been a week. Typically, it’s a day or three, depending on the part. The quality of their work has always been top-notch. Overall, I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield.

My refrigerator went out and American Home Shield’s site was user-friendly but the staff could be trained properly. When I placed the work order online, it gave me the confirmation someone will come out. Sears called me and gave me a time but they didn’t show up. When I called AHS, the person that I spoke to wasn’t very nice nor helpful. She told me someone would come out in the next few days and gave me their number to call them. I was trying to explain to her that that was not what the message said on my phone or the email that I received but she didn't wanna hear me. My refrigerator at that time had already been out for several days. I told her my food was gonna go bad because I gotta wait another seven days and she blew me off. So, I had to call back and I got ahold of some other young lady who sent over Mr. Appliance.
Also, in the past, I used to just give a check for my deductible. Now, AHS was saying that they would take it out. However, I got a notice from AHS saying my deductible wasn’t paid. I had my air condition fixed earlier in the summer and they took it out, but then this time, they didn’t. I got the notice the day before Thanksgiving eve. I thought that was already taken care of. AHS should go back to the way it was. As the homeowner, if I’m gonna pay my deductible, just allow me to pay my deductible. At least, I know it’s done. Now, they wanna automatically debit my account that they take my payment out of and now, they’re seeing how that’s working. If they start saying that I’m due, I feel like I’m delinquent on my bills. I have the money. I wanna pay the deductible and I don’t have a problem with that. I’ve always been satisfied with AHS but I was a little deterred with this little situation.

When I submitted a claim with American Home Shield, my interaction with the contractor that they sent out was okay. The only problem I had was with the timeliness. When I was renting a place, the techs couldn't get out for three days. I lived in Florida and it was 100 degrees out, so I ended up getting the unit fixed myself. I had an AHS warranty for the seven years that I lived there and in my experience with them, the main thing was getting the contractors out in a timely manner, especially under certain conditions. In the North, when furnaces break, people aren't gonna wait. I was originally from Chicago and if it was 20 below out, I wasn't gonna wait four or five days to get my furnace fixed. Recently, I sold a property that had an AHS warranty and as part of the selling arrangement, I agreed to pay another year for the AHS warranty for the people that bought the property.

The contractor was Knock Out Pools, a Forth Worth local company, and they were fantastic. Will was the technician that was sent out. I wish that AHS would send me Knock Out Pools and that Will would be sent out any time that I needed pool service.
Will showed up, knocked on the door, and asked me what was going on. He understood that I have a little bit of understanding of the pool equipment but didn't wanna go digging into it because I didn't wanna ruin my warranty. Then Will told me what needed to happen from there. I went out and checked the pool sweep this morning. It worked and was moving. Everything has been operating well since the repair. My washer was not spinning. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield through their website and it was quick, fairly easy, and painless. They sent the contractor, Suffolk Appliance Parts, out for that appliance issue. The guy that came out was very engaging and polite. He knew what was wrong, talked about the problem, ordered the part that was needed, and came back the following day to install the part. Everything worked fine. But I've had issues with my air handler and certain parts weren’t covered. I was left with a bill that I didn’t know I was gonna have to pay. Their being a little more open as to what is covered and what is not would benefit a lot of people who have an their warranty.
Nevertheless, having an AHS warranty gives me peace of mind because, for the most part, no matter what stops working in my house, it’s gonna cost me 75 bucks, unless it’s something outside of the parameters of whatever my contract agreement with AHS is. I've been with them for more than 10 years and, although I've had stumbling blocks over the years, they've been fairly decent overall and the service has always been good. I haven’t left them, I’m still with them, and I don’t plan on leaving them.

The washer was shaking. The hard water had destroyed the valve in the top so it started leaking at the valve and had to replace the hot and cold valve into the washing machine. I called in to American Home Shield. I'd rather talk to a real person because then I know what actually happens and so far, I've gotten excellent service on all calls. The tech from JTL Services did a good job. One of the shocks on the bottom of the washing machine was completely destroyed ‘cause all the water that washed down there destroyed the shock. He replaced the four shocks. But my washer still has some of the spin issues and vibrating. It was a $15 spring to replace on the top, so I just went ahead and ordered them myself ‘cause the tech would have charged me another $75 for me to get another $30 in springs. I'm now waiting on those and I'm just gonna fix it myself. The spring is super easy to fix.
I thought that the shocks were gonna fix it but had I been able to have the tech back out and have him do it, that would have been easier for me and have it part of that original contract, but I thought that I could just spend the $30 and be done with it instead of paying $75. If it's something that’s a minor repair, it would cost AHS and me a lot less if I just fix it, like when the AC went out, it was just a $15 part that I could have easily put in. So, if AHS had to pay process, it could probably save us both money. That’s my only suggestion for the future.
Nonetheless, I didn’t know that AHS has 30 days from whenever I filed the claim for the contractor to come back out and fix that again so that AHS doesn’t charge the customer that $75 fee. So far, I've been pretty happy that we got the service ‘cause we had the dishwasher, and then we had the freezer, and then we had the furnace, and then we had this, I've called AHS a number of times.

Original Review: Our wash machine broke on Nov 8, 2018. It took almost 2 weeks for the "parts search" and installation of the defective part. That did not fix the problem. Now we get to wait how many more weeks to get the machine replaced?? Have they given us a date by which the problem will be resolved?? No! Do they care that it costs us $30/week to do the wash at the laundromat and drag it all home to dry? Is there anything in the contract that defines an acceptable timeline for repair?? No. We are at their mercy, and I am really upset at being treated this way. We've been customers since 2013. Have any of our payments ever been late? No. I would like to know how long AHS defines as an acceptable level of service to repair or replace a broken wash machine. If you can't give me an exact number of days defining what is reasonable, then shame on you!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

All of my experiences with American Home Shield had been very pleasant. My recent claim was with my swimming pool. I submitted my claim online, and their website is very user-friendly. Everything was clear and laid out properly. The contractor who went here was really friendly and he explained everything. He was very professional, and he did a great job. The issue was resolved on the second visit as he had to come back to order the parts. The issue was resolved in about a week or two. It was rainy so that kind of delayed the time. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend AHS. It is a great investment.
I hate to hear that you the repair was delayed Kaysia. It's good to know that we were able to get your issue resolved. We appreciate you being apart of the AHS family. Have great week.

We've had AHS for not quite a year and now, we have it, we've had nothing but positive experience. We've used them a couple of times. One time, the air conditioning wasn’t working and I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Then, the contractor called within a day or so and came out at his next available slot. It was done really well. The unit has been excellent since.
That is exactly what we like to hear Daniel. Thanks for being a loyal customer. Have an amazing weekend.

It was very hot and the AC was not cooling and was not cooling down the house. I put in the claim to American Home Shield on a Friday and it took four or five days for Cooling & Heating Specialist to come out. The tech was very professional and he fixed it. The unit is a lot better since. Overall, it was a good experience. Having the warranty is extremely valuable, especially now that we purchased this house. It gets extremely hot where we live and you can’t live without certain appliances.
Hello, Salvidor. We appreciate your positive review. A/C season is our peak time of year, we regret to hear that it took 4-5 days to be serviced but are glad to know that it was resolved during that initial appointment time.

There was a problem with our heating and air conditioning unit blower. Submitting claims over the phone could be easier, but I don’t like doing things over the internet for that kind of report. Plus, American Home Shield's system tends to automatically shove you into a set of options which may or may not be appropriate. The actual accessing process has become a little more difficult since they automated everything.
The contractor was absolutely fantastic though. They were quick to respond and sent out people who were professional. The first guy who came was good. He recognized that there was a limit to his knowledge and that my problem was a little more extensive. They sent a more experienced person and he was incredibly friendly. He had only been able to get the final repair done today, but he fixed the problem perfectly. The delays were totally acceptable. It was the sort of thing you need if you need to order a specialized part.
I have two policies, one for my home and one for a rental policy. I have had problems with the rental property one. According to Oregon law, if there's a heating issue in a rental property, it has to be dealt with within a 24-hour period. I had a heating issue there and AHS was gonna take over a weekend to get there. I had to call out a different person who was off-program because we didn’t have time for the claim to turn around.

The water heater wasn't working properly and we raised a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The basic waiting time when I call is 20 minutes but sometimes, I get it immediately, and after that, everything is very easy. American Home Shield gave me a list of service providers in my area and I chose one. They gave me an appointment in a week's time and they came. They asked about the issue and inspected the water heater. They said that the water heater needs to be completely replaced. They got in touch with American Home Shield who approved the request for replacement instantly. The heater was replaced by the service provider in a week's time. The person I dealt with was very friendly and he explained to me very clearly. AHS is good to start with because I enrolled when I bought a home very recently and until now, I have raised three or four complaints with them and everything went fine.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Shyamala. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

The American Home Shield contractors that they sent out for the garage door were very prompt. They came when they said they would and they solved the problem. We've had American Home Shield for six years, since we've owned our house. We added it on our house purchase. So far, we've only dealt with a couple of contractors and they’ve been great and their quality of work has been great too. They fix what we needed to get fixed within a week from the time we submitted a claim. We're in a bit older home so having AHS has been valuable for us. It's nice to have some assistance on some of the everyday repairs.
Good afternoon Elizabeth,
I would like to thank you for your patronage over the past six years. I am pleased to hear about the garage door repairs and your overall experience with AHS as your home warranty provider.

When I had an issue with my refrigerator, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the techs came over and fixed it. Their professionalism was great. I was not here at that time, but my husband did not have any problems with them. However, we paid our bill and then the next thing I know, it was not paid. So, I need to find out through billings somehow because I thought we were covered. I even sat on the line for over an hour waiting to speak to somebody in customer service. They need to do something about their customer service. Their repair end, once it gets here, is okay. It just takes too long. Still, the refrigerator has been working fine after the repair.

Our air conditioner had failed, and filing a claim with AHS was very easy. I just submitted the claim, and the next couple of days, the tech came out and fixed it in about 10 minutes. I usually go online to submit my claims with them and their website works. The contractors that have been sent out have been top-notch. Their work has been great and I'm completely pleased. I also had a water heater replaced and we were able to work it out so that I can replace it with a tankless water heater, and the contractor did a great job on the installation. It was, “Oh, you're the customer, whatever you want.” It all worked out really well.

The garbage disposal was jammed and I filed a claim with American Home Shield on the internet. They responded within 24 hours and sent out #1 R & R Electrical Allstar in two days. The contractor cleared the problem. They cleaned the garbage disposal out and got it started and was on its way. The techs were both excellent and it took them about an hour. The garbage disposal has been fine since.

I've only submitted a claim twice to American Home Shield and I did it on their website. The recent one is for my furnace that wasn't working. The contractor is United Air Temp and they told me that they couldn't come till the next week. I had to wait for a week in freezing temperatures and my son got a cold because there was no way to heat his room even though I bought a bunch of air heaters. When United Air Temp came, they told me they've ordered the part but they don't know when it's gonna come.
The manager came today to sell me a new furnace and I kept on saying that the furnace is under warranty. I also told them that I need them to fix it. At first, he estimated and told me that the part was gonna be here in 5 days. But now, they don't know when the part is gonna come so they don't know when they're gonna fix my furnace. Also, I could be without heat for the whole winter if I don't subject to the blackmail and buy a furnace from them. I'm being screwed over, despite my home warranty, and I'm being told to have to buy a new furnace or I will have no heat and my kid will be sick. My money spent on this contractor is a huge waste.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for our upstairs air conditioning unit and their claims rep was professional. The contractors didn't take long to come out and when they arrived, they described what they were gonna do. They still have to come back though as they have to finish installing the new HVAC unit. I've had a good experience with American Home Shield overall and I would recommend them.

We’ve been with AHS for twenty years and they have met all our needs. I would recommend it.

I had someone come out to do some work on my refrigerator through American Home Shield. AHS let me know who's gonna come out and a gentleman called about a hour later. He told me what he was probably going to do and asked me the brand of the refrigerator. I told him and he made a preliminary order based on what I told him the problem was. A couple of days later, he said he had the parts that was necessary. He called me back and told me he had the parts. He brought them over and fixed the situation in a pretty quick manner. I've been a customer of American Home Shield for a while and I've been pleased with the service.

I love American Home Shield. But I'm pissed that I'm paying $75 right outside of the 60 days, especially when one issue has to do with the other. American Home Shield initially sent All Brands Appliances out when the AC stopped working. My fan was working but the AC itself had stopped working. When the gentleman came out, he replaced the fan motor. The gentleman was a good old boy and he told me that he's the only one in Seminole County. From the time that he was there to the time that he left, it was about an hour. He was probably one of the quickest people who came and went. He even replaced the part, which he had on the truck. It was a Friday and I was so worried I was gonna have to wait over the weekend because it was still hot out. But I didn't have to wait. Today, I was told there were two things that were replaced though. But I only remember one.
But then we had our first cold spell in Florida and last night, when I went to turn the heat on, it didn't even turn on. I was really disappointed. Then I was told that it was out of the time that I had to call back American Home Shield. I just haven't had to use my heat yet though. The guy who came out was there. He diagnosed and fixed within an hour. But we had just bought the house and we tested everything. The heat was working fine before. So I think that since it didn't turn on at all, something just didn't get hooked up properly. The guy was nice though. I'm hoping that he's honest and he would say that he forgot to hook something up. Somehow, I would magically get my $75 back so I can buy something for one of my kids for Christmas. Nonetheless, I sell this warranty all day. I work at the title company that do up the figures and I recommend American Home Shield all the time.

I’ve got four properties with American Home Shield and everything for the most part is good. However, it is impossible to get anybody to answer a telephone. I’ve never dealt with a company that is that bad. Everything that the representative does is very helpful, but when they’re holding up for an hour, it is ridiculous. Then there are times that it doesn’t work on the computer. They don’t have all the options when you try to cancel something. I have an ice maker that wasn’t working and it started working, and there was no way to cancel the appointment on the website or get anybody. Sometimes, you just have to hang-up. It’s awful. They're awesome once you get somebody on the phone, but there’s no way I could recommend American Home Shield to anybody that I know.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We couldn’t get our ceiling fan to turn on. In the electrical panel on the wall, the wiring on the the rocker switch where you press to turn the lights on or off had disconnected. So, it had nothing to do with the ceiling fan and the tech that AHS sent out just replaced the rocker. He was a very nice and polite gentleman and everything was great. He was done in 10 minutes and out the door. So, everything is working now.
When we submitted the claim, we got a quick response. My husband went on the internet, put in the request, and the next day, someone called and made an appointment. Within the next day or two, they were out to do the job. Then they did the job and was out the door. So, everything was very simple. We recommended AHS several times, too. We also recommend them to my son, but you have to have the money to buy the insurance.
