My refrigerator broke 3 weeks ago, turns out a fan needs to get replaced. 3 weeks later and I'm still waiting. While Home Depot carries the part I'm not allowed to go and buy it and have to wait. I have since gone out and purchased a new fridge (which of course won't get reimbursed). I'll come back and write another review once they repair the part. Who knows how long it will take.

American Home Shield went out of their way to contact me about my review and service. I found my own vendor who resolved my water heater issue and American Home Shield reimbursed me for the payment. I appreciate that they went out of their way to resolve the issue. I do hope that they consider having more vendors on their list so that home issues can be more easily resolved.

    Original Review: Nov. 20, 2018

You will be on hold for over an hour if you try to call the help desk and don't expect them to have more than 1 vendor in your area when you do get a hold of them. Trying to find someone with flexible hours that can help you? Nope. Have a water heater broken on a weekend and want help? Can't get it. This feels like a scam of a company.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield for a leak under the drain of our bathroom sink and they were supposed to come out this Tuesday, for their third attempt, to try to fix it. They can't seem to get it completely sealed so they ended up changing out the whole faucet. But they didn't properly seal it with the new gasket 'cause it still had to connect the old part of the sink to the new piece which still had the leak right where they were connected.

I've submitted claims with AHS both online and by phone but talking to somebody is better for me. Filing a claim online is not the best 'cause it's not very personal and it takes a while to go through that process. Also, it takes two, three or four days for some of the vendors to contact me. I was told 24 hours and that was not necessarily the case but some of them respond a little faster.

Our hot water heater had gone out on a Saturday morning. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and the process was fine. They used Prime Plumbing. We called David immediately and he said they'll get it taken care of through home warranty. Then he called us back and said the soonest they can send somebody out is on a Monday. So we went the whole weekend without hot water, and there are two minor children and an elderly senior citizen who live in the house. The person came out on Monday at the agreed scheduled time, between 9:00 and 11:00, but was not prepared to fix the hot water heater. He just came to look and see what we needed. We knew we needed a new hot water heater. The guy wrote up an estimate, sent that back to AHS, and then they called later and said there are some things that they won't cover. The bill was over $1,700.

What they wanted us to come out of pocket was probably about $600 or $700. We called David again and he disagreed to that. That Monday night, we had a brand new hot water heater in here. So we just totally bypassed American Home Shield. It was not the first time that has happened. It happened with the air conditioning system. Now, we had never heard this from AHS, but we heard it from the people that had come out to service the air conditioner, that there was money that was gonna be owed by us and we said, "No."

The purpose of the home warranty is we pay the $75 deductible which we have no problem paying and then AHS was supposed to pick up the rest. The company was trying to scam us because we’ve never heard another word about it. And AHS never said anything about them. Then the next person came out and we thought he was here to fix it but it took four times to finally get somebody out here to fix it. They were coming up with parts for the water heater that don’t even exist. They even said we needed an expansion tank. But all we needed was a hot water heater put in and David took care of it. Other than that, AHS has been doing the best they can with who they have to work with. I am satisfied with some of the people AHS sends out but not so thrilled with the others.

They sent someone who was a short time out and I had to call AHS back. They were responsive and got the people on the phone. Everything happened the way it was supposed to. AHS is the greatest service around and I will never not have them. I didn't even know it existed.

We submitted a claim to American Home Shield for our heat that was not working. The guy who came out didn't feel comfortable to go under our house and requested that we have something done, so we had it done. Then just a couple days after we had somebody come out and spray the crawlspace, they sent out our usual person who we like a whole lot. He's always really nice and super fast. Since the repair, our unit is good and we haven't had any issues.

The customer service at American Home Shield is great. They take my claims and call the contractor company for me. I don’t even have to talk to the contractor because AHS calls the contractor company and then they call me back and tell me what's going on. The air conditioner contractors were great. They were very pleasant and helpful. They told me what was going on, what to look for and how prevent it from happening again. My most recent claim was for my dryer wherein the clothes weren't drying, and I wasn't too impressed with the contractor for that. Still, AHS is definitely worth it. It seems like since I moved in here, it has been one thing after another that's going wrong and I'm glad I have them, even for the dryer to have somebody come out here and fix whatever they did. I would definitely recommend getting it 'cause you never know what's going on and how long these things have last been serviced.

Alpha Appliances came through AHS and then they sent the report of the stove. They couldn’t get the part so I ended up calling American Home Shield and they sent me a new stove out. I had to pay to have it put in because Alpha said they didn’t install. So I just went ahead and paid to have it installed and I’m good with that. Alpha came and did some other stuff here. They’re a real reputable company. They show up on time and they do what they need to do.

AHS can open up more telephone lines. I had a very hard time getting through. I call them and I’m on the phone for 10 minutes just listening to a recording and then finally something says, “If you want us to call you back, we’ll call you back.” And then, they normally call back within two to three hours but you gotta be by your phone. Nonetheless, I would recommend AHS highly.

At the end of the summer, my washer went out and I needed for someone to fix it. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and it was quick and easy. However, it started out to be a problem. The first one never answered their phone and I was told that they would call me some time but they never did. I would never deal with those vendors anymore. I called back AHS and one of the ladies stayed on the phone with me until everything was resolved with the first vendor. She would not get off the phone and called from one place to another and made sure that everything was happening in a decent order. Once she got off the phone, it wasn’t even 45 minutes before that vendor showed up at my house. The second contractor was very professional and very timely.

The tech got it resolved in one visit. My washer was not repairable and he sent out the paperwork in a timely manner. I ended up getting a replacement washer. They told me that it would take two weeks, but I had two choices. They told me that if I ordered the washer over the internet, it would take three days. But the washer that they had on the internet, I found for half the price at Best Buy, so I went and bought one and they refunded my money in two weeks. Their customer service was very professional in dealing with that. I have recommended AHS and I’m telling everybody I know that wants to get something done or wants one of those companies because there are a lot of them out there and American Home Shield is second to none.

I had been with TotalProtect for years but it seemed like every time I called up, it was waiting and waiting. Then they would send out different companies every time and it seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing. One company showed up and they weren’t even dressed professionally. I was really concerned about having them in my home. I didn’t know where TotalProtect got those guys. On top of that, TotalProtect replaced our original stuff, our good stuff, with the bottom-of-the-line junk. Then we had been flooded out and we had the house redone. So I decided to switch. I asked my neighbor how American Home Shield was and he said he had no problems at all. And this is the one to go with.

When we were having some air conditioning problems, American Home Shield sent a contractor out and the man was really nice. The contractor called me back within an hour or so after I had called and put in the claim. Then they kept calling me back. The technician also texted me when he was coming and he showed up right on time. I already had everything fixed for him to be able to get in the attic and he found the problem. The only difficulty he had was that he had to replace some wiring and some parts that were in the attic.

Initially, he replaced some little part then the air conditioner was supposed to work. But then it burned up immediately. He said that something was wrong with the wiring. The wiring was running all underneath the floor in the attic and he couldn't believe the wire system up there. It was so old and it had been crimped. He completely rewired it then he got another part and replaced it. While he was here, the neighbor also came over and the contractor remembered him. He had done work for the neighbor too. He was real friendly and I was very pleased.

The same air conditioning company even called me last week but was calling me a different name. I told him that I had gotten his text message that he was coming out but that I didn't make a call. He gave me the address and it was my dad's. I had sold the house a couple of months back and they went with American Home Shield as well. I think when we were first lining it up, they had my phone number connected with it. But I was able to steer him in the right direction. So it was the same company that was going out to my dad's former home so I know they're getting good service. I know they are pleased with American Home Shield too. In fact, I haven't heard of anyone that has said anything bad against the company. So I feel good about that.

But so far, all those people that came did a good job. This is the second time Tom came to our residence. The first one was for the fridge. He’s from GE and he’s a nice guy. The service has been quick and I appreciate it. So far, everything is doing good since the repair. We bought a home recently that included American Home Shield, immediately saw the reviews on ConsumerAffairs and Facebook under "community" postings were very unfavorable. The only way it seems to be heard is here, to have AHS respond, so we are doing it now. As new customers, what we realize is the company seems to have gone downhill rapidly. First, we tried to get on the phone with the company last week and it didn't work, were on hold several times to no avail. Then, when we went on a chat with AHS on Friday afternoon, things were better but a lady named Michelle assigned us contractors. Then, when going online to check the account all weekend, it was down, couldn't call as it gave an error message and said they had "Technical difficulties" and then the chat didn't work at all.

Got online today to check the assigned contractors, as we had not made any appointments yet. Two of the five didn't have any good comments from anyone, on BBB, ConsumerAffairs, or on Angie's List, Google, or Yelp. Decided to make a change to those two, one would not let us delete the service call or change it. Went on chat, finally got that done, but the chat host told me I could not insist on a different contractor because they "don't base their contractor list on reviews of any kind" - how stupid is that? I got told that by three people via customer service chat too, since chats kept getting cut off and nobody seems to care that you have to go back in the hold queue for talking to someone in some fashion.

Got the assignments with better vendors, I think, but then the entire list disappeared, and yet, my payments pending with the contractors originally assigned last Friday ALL show up! So, am I going to be charged for those, even though I never even made appointments? Some people are complaining on Facebook that this happened to them. And, one vendor, a keying company, said they'd already made the appointment with me, even though they were the one company who never called me back today. How strange! Got the keying company changed, got the HVAC changed, got the plumbing changed twice because the second company called and said, "Listen, we won't do more than one item at your home at one time, not more than one faucet or one toilet". And, he claimed he could only see one item on the list, so are they all going to do this?

I cannot see my account in detail for appointments or assigned contractors. I can only see the bogus pending charges for the five contractors assigned last Friday and I've put all on the 15-day hold. Beyond that, nobody was available for the site all weekend, nothing seems to be updated at all. I need assistance and the company needs to assure me there will be zero surprises this week and beyond with billing, who is coming, and what they are fixing when they do come. I have been told online with the chat people that they have "put those through to dispatch" but who knows? I am surprised this company can stay in business this way, really. Very sad and scary.

I have to call them to correct their mistake but have to spend my valuable time waiting on the phone. This after 8 service call and fixes to my microwave and it breaks again within 2 days. Called American Home Shield (AHS) on Wednesday, November 14 2018 because of an internal leak on our electric water heater. I was on hold, waiting for a representative for 51 minutes. When a representative became available, we requested and received “expedited” service. The service contractor could not come out the following day but would be at our home between 8am and noon on Friday November 16, 2019. This did not appear to be expedited, but we agreed.

On Friday November 16, 2018 at 7am I received a phone call from the service contractor (Ideal Plumbing in Las Vegas) to let me know that the 8am to noon time was not convenient for the service technician and they would arrive between 2pm and 9pm; a 7 ridiculous hour window. I did not agree but they said they had already changed the technician’s schedule.

Now, since the technician was now arriving late in the day, it would be another 24 hours until the replacement got approved, the technician purchased the water heater and brought it to our home to install. I called AHS, waited on hold for 48 minutes to talk to a representative and then told them what had transpired. They offered to transfer me to their Supervisor. After another 38 minute wait I talked to the Supervisor who really did not care that the service company THEY selected would not honor their original time because it inconvenienced the technician; AHS almost defended the service provider. AHS finally offered to send another service provider, but mentioned doing so would add another 24-48 hours for response time. This is how AHS defines “expedited service”.

Saturday, November 17, 2018 we receive a call from the “service provider” who says they cannot get in contact AHS to get the water heater purchase approved. I call AHS and waits 90+ minutes listening to their “on hold” music and finally decide to look at them online to find their system was down. During that time, there was no contact of any type to either the customers or the “service providers”. The service technician mentioned they did not work on Sunday, so that meant another day or 4 days minimum without a water heater for service that was expedited on a non-holiday weekend. This is the AHS way.

Monday I receive a call from the “service provider” who says they got the approval and can install our water heater between 2pm and 9pm, which really means 9pm today. Like there is really a choice for me after 5 days without a water heater and a house full of family. They then proceeded to tell me about the “extra” costs; new earthquake strap, new piping and permit. The installed earthquake strap is 2 years old, properly installed, is reusable and meets all safety and code requirements. The strap costs $15 at Lowe’s. The “service provider” insists on charging me $60 to replace this perfectly fit, reusable piece of hardware. They said it needed to be new to meet code. The water supply and return lines are 4 years old, have no wear or corrosion are made of flexible copper and are reusable.

The “service provider” insists on charging me $160 to replace these perfectly fit, reusable pieces of hardware. They said it needed to be new to meet code. So I asked the “service provider” this question; When I call the city and/or county to verify these pieces need to be replace to meet code, they are going to agree that in order to meet code requirements these pieces need to be newly purchased and installed with a new water heater. The “service provider” then just said; “well, regardless, we will not replace the water heater without installing these new pieces.” My point would be; there is a big difference between needing to “meet code” and using an implied plumber’s code to weasel money out of a customer. So I again called AHS for help and clarification.

After waiting 48 minutes to get a representative on the phone, who could can only reply according with pre-defined verbiage, I request a supervisor. I am placed on hold for 28 minutes and then the line goes dead. I’m not saying they hung up on me, but somehow the line goes dead on an unhappy customer. So I call them back… again. I again wait for 47 minutes (I can be very patient when I am not receiving the service I have paid for). When a representative gets on the line, I again run through my, now very long, story because she will not transfer me to a supervisor until she knows everything. So after I go through EVERYTHING again, she agrees to transfer me. I am now again on hold for 31 minutes, but this time the representative comes back on the line to make sure she has my phone number because a supervisor will call me back. 2 hours later, still no call.

AHS has extremely poor customer service. They also have very scripted responses, they don’t hear you because they really are not listening and really don’t care. AHS uses providers that also have poor customer service. Anybody who will change service times because of the technician’s convenience is not providing quality customer service. AHS represents themselves, not their customers. AHS does not have “expedited” service. Water heater replacement = 5 days. AHS does not have sufficient customer service representatives. Over 5 hours of hold time over 5 days. They really don’t give a damn about their customers.

I opened a call with AHS on September 25th 2018 and to date (Nov 19 2018). Still refrigerator issue is not resolved. They deducted $125 as copay after first visit. Different firms came and attended but said we don't handle the seal cooling system - then GE came (GE Refrigerator) and they declined saying it was attended by another firm - we have made attempts so many times (at least 15 - 20 calls in last 2 months) to AHS but no luck - we feel extremely frustrated that we have been paying AHS monthly membership fees and it has been no good - the wait times on the calls are excess of over an hour or even two. Very disappointing. If someone can help advise, how we can get help, please let us know.

Water heater not working but getting power. (Monday) My heater had a built in Energy Management Console. I called American Home Shield/Home Warranty, and they sent out a technician/plumber 2 days later. Dennis showed up, (Wednesday) looked at water heater and said "this is old. I am going to put you in for a new one." That evening American Home Shield called to explain that Plumbing, electrical, etc. was not covered so it would be $494.00 paid to APC. Was not happy, but needed hot water. So (Saturday) I had not heard from anyone, so I called American Home Shield.

They got a hold of APC, and was told they tried to call me Friday, but no answer. No missed calls, no voicemail. APC will be calling you in a few minutes to set up install. 2 hours later no call, so I called APC directly. Tuesday was the soonest they had. Ugghh anyway, in the meantime I spoke with a friend, who sent his plumber friend over. Bill showed up Monday afternoon, called Whirlpool, from the sticker on the side of water heater, and they told him, it was under warranty. They shipped the part for free, and by Thursday, Bill came and put in the part $100. out the door, 10 days no hot water. Thanks APC & American Home Shield.

My attic fan broke. I reported to AHS on 10/25/2018. The electrician comes. It is not fixed. I call again. The guy comes and says that the motor needs to be changed. Today is 11/19 - almost a month, my fan is not fixed. Calling AHS is never a pleasant experience. I have called AHS on 10/25, 10/31. 11/13, 11/15. Every time the wait time is somewhere from 30 to 45 minutes.

This company has very poor customer service when it comes to situations outside of their "box." I have been a customer of 7 contracts (my own and rentals) with some being for more than 11 years in length. While most situations can be handled quickly and well, sometimes one may be an exception to the "rules" and result in lousy customer service. That happened to me on a recent service call to my home regarding a plumbing leak. First, it was "mislabeled" by their server that it was a "slab leak," when it was a leak from pipes within the wall and not under the floor. I was concerned about their server and asked to find my own (and be reimbursed by them). Thus began a "nightmare" that involved multiple encounters with them that were absolutely terrible.

My choice of contractors was fine and all went well. It was AHS's resistance to reimbursing me that took my reaching out to the BBB and more than a month to finally get resolved. Even then there was no "apology" from AHS, only more arguments as to why my request was out-of-line even though they eventually gave me the money. All of this due, again, to the misdiagnosis of a "slab leak." Now, weeks later, I am getting notices from them that I need to pay $75 to their contractor even though I already did. I have cancelled 6 of my 7 contracts with them (found another company) but still looking for a replacement for my property in CA.

By the way, if one tried to talk with them via phone, the waits are incredibly long. I spend almost 2 hours in one of my phone calls with them in this matter, only to be disconnected. Then they did not call me back. There is no way to email them. Multiple long calls transferred to different departments to get this resolved--all useless.

I contacted AHS on Saturday to try to get a plumber to fix my garbage disposal and a drain leak in a bathroom sink, both listed as covered items in my warranty. I had a very hard time understanding the customer service representative on the phone but I believe they told me that their system was down and could not enter service requests but would write down the information and enter it when the system was back up and running. On Sunday I tried to call again for a service request to fix my plumbing issues and was repeatedly put on hold by the automated system, told my wait was either greater than 30 minutes or greater than one hour, then the call was promptly dropped. Online didn't work either.

They require that you provide credit card information before requesting service or setting up an appointment, but couldn't take my credit card information. I ended up calling the line to add services to my warranty and was able to quickly talk to someone, who quickly told me they couldn't help me and could only transfer me to the service request number that had been efficient at dropping my call. Sunday night, I get an email from AHS saying that there was a service request initiated to fix a Garage Door Opener.

I don't have a garage. I canceled that service request both on the website and via the contractor. Monday I was finally able to submit a service request for the original plumbing problems and they assigned a contractor promptly. After looking up reviews on the contractor online, I am concerned. I called the requisite authority and found out that they are not licensed to perform work in my area. I am now on hold again waiting to talk to at AHS about getting a proper contractor in my home. They are unresponsive, it's hard to request service and even harder to contact; there isn't an email for customer service that I can contact. Had I known that it would be this difficult to get a plumber in my house, I would have done something different. I do not recommend.

I was told I would receive a callback in 30 mins to 4 hours. 24 hours later I still had not been contacted. I had to call back and it took 30 mins each time for someone to answer. I was hung up on 3 times in a row. Their call center is overseas which may be part of the issue. It is not based in TN. Finally a tech came out 3 days later and had to order a part and there is still no heat 5 days after call.

We had an issue with lights and I put in a request online so I wouldn't have to hold for 30+ mins. I received a text someone would contact me in 24 hours. 48 hours later I received a text and they won't be out till Tuesday. 4 days after my initial request. This warranty is on my rental home. My personal home has 2-10 Warranty and never had an issue. I can call and speak to someone within mins and a tech is out the same day or next day at the latest. Worst company I have worked with.

AHS has been a horrible home warranty company. I can't wait for my contract to end so that I can find a company who actually cares if issues get fixed in your home or if the companies they contract out are held accountable when they damage appliances. AHS has the worst customer service, I have set waiting to get through to them for 45 minutes before my call was ever answered.

My most recent issue is that I'm putting in a request for the 3rd time now on my heat pump. It is obviously time for it to be replaced but the companies that they contract out won't just face up to the fact that they have been wrong all the times past and that the only way of fixing it going forward would be to replace the dang thing. All the companies care about is getting a service fee each time they are called out. They put a bandaid on the problem knowing it will last long enough so that the next time the issue comes up again they will get their service fee money again! Pretty perfect on their part. AHS never answers the phone and when they do, they are NOT helpful at all. Like I said, HORRIBLE home warranty company. I could go on and on with the nightmare situations I have experienced with this company lately.

I placed an order to have the stoppage in our plumbing fixed and our ice maker in our fridge. They needed to be processed by 2 different companies at a $75 fee for each. They were to take the payment for services that same call. The plumber contacted us and fixed the stoppage. We didn’t hear from anyone about the fridge at all. We received a call from AHS about renewal, he informed me that our account was past due for the payment that should have been taken. I told him it was supposed to have come out the day we submitted the work orders and also asked him about the ice maker repair ticket. He said it was submitted wrong and that he’d have to transfer me and they could take payment and look at the ticket.

The hold times are ridiculous. Usually over 1 hour hold times. I couldn’t hold that long at that time and had to hang up. I then got an email about the past due amount of $150 on our account! Can’t pay it on my online account because they messed up and it should o my be $75, as the other ticket was never processed. So here I sit on hold. I have been holding for 2 hours and 20 minutes and counting!!! To fix their mistakes. If they truly cared about customer service as their automated message keeps telling me, they would get more employees to handle call volume. This isn’t the first time I’ve had a hold time well over an hour with this company.

The last claim we had with AHS was for our air conditioning unit. I put in a call and they called me right back and set up an appointment. The vendor came two days later, and then found the problem and fixed it. It was a very good service. I usually go online and put in the claim and they’ll call me right back. Whatever vendor they assign, they’ll call back. And then we’re in touch and I have a local name. Afterwards the vendor will call when the appointment is set up, and then they call when they get to the house. It works out real well.

The vendor for the ac checked the outside, checked the inside and found out that it was a blown fuse on the air handler, which was a $25 part versus the major air conditioning unit outside-- because it just all stopped working. But then, he replaced that and then he did a full check on the outside and said that everything was good. That was really good because they could have told me anything.

If I would have brought somebody else in, they could have just said that the whole unit outside wasn’t working. Also they took their call equally rather than saying that there was a priority for other customers. I felt that we were definitely taken care of quickly and they were able to resolve it fast. We’ve had AHS since we bought the house. We’re coming up to four years and we’ll continue with them. They’ve been very good, also in explaining when they come out. The vendors that have come out explain what the problem was and then they showed me the parts so I got a better understanding of what was involved.

My hot water heater pilot would not stay lit so I called American Home Shield and they sent out a gentleman from the plumbing company. He examined it and couldn’t find anything wrong. He lit the pilot and the pilot lasted about 12 hours, and then the hot water heater went off again. I called them the next morning and they sent out another guy. He looked at it and he also couldn't find anything wrong. He called the company. It was a Kenmore water heater. They said it was either the air vent or air intake, or the gas line into the hot water heater. He called American Home Shield and they said they wouldn’t cover anything like that, so he left me to deal with it.

I called the plumbing company again this morning and they haven’t called me back yet. I asked for an estimate of what it would be. I was disappointed that American Home Shield would not cover the repairs, which is what I understood that it would from their policy but they said they would not. I felt like I spent $75 for nothing. They didn’t solve my problem and they just left me hanging. No one ever explained anything to me. They sent me a contract and that was it.

I’m not satisfied with AHS. I wouldn’t expect them to replace the hot water heater completely because there was nothing wrong in that respect. But as far as fixing the problem, they didn’t do anything. If the hot water heater was broken, cracked or something like that, then they probably would have covered it. It’s frustrating. It’s not a major problem and it should’ve been covered. Cleaning after an air vent would’ve been simple to do and the people from the plumbing company could’ve done it right then and there on the spot. But they didn’t. Nobody did anything. They just looked at it and said, "It's not something..." They just walked out and said, "That’s it."

We had problems with our AC a month or two ago and determined that there was a Freon leak. The techs from American Home Shield came and tested the unit to see where the leak was. They did what they could do, filled it up and gave us more Freon. But the first time that they came here, there was a big backlog of the parts that we needed. We were without AC for a month and it was really hot so it was not good at all. But then the second time, they fixed it. Then, about six weeks later, it wasn't cooling properly. Our unit was old enough that they had to upgrade a certain function on it. The second guy that came out said that the leak could have been because they didn't put on the new part properly, but there was no way to determine that. But the AC has been working well since.

We are very thankful to have AHS. It saved us money and they were really helpful and responsive. Usually, we call them to submit a claim and someone either texts or calls us back. Also, the people that we worked with were all great and we were happy. And so, for anyone who is considering a one year warranty for the sale of a home, I will recommend them.

I had service with AHS for over 2yrs, I experienced an unexpected financial burden and requested AHS to temporarily suspend my contract until I was able to afford the service. Unfortunately the service was not suspended and I was stilled being billed. I called to see if there was any way to rectify the outstanding billing, but was told that I owed the balance. Most companies, you would expect, would want to keep customers, but I will find another home Warranty company and will definitely pay on my experience with AHS.

I bought a home warranty a month ago with a new home, intending to use the re-key service offered. They told me my service would be active on the 16th, but when I logged in to request service, I just got an error. The phone hold times were over two hours, so I called back the next day. After holding 30 minutes, I was told my payment was going to be *processed* on the 16th, so my service wouldn't actually start until the 17th. It is now the 18th. I called again since when I log in online it says my contract is expired. It took 20 minutes of a very polite but unhelpful rep to give me a Yes/No answer ("is my contract active?"). He said yes, but the site still wasn't working. I'm now on hold again for more than 30 minutes to try and get a repair request since for some reason I'm unable to do it through the website and there is no chat help.

    Original Review: Nov. 18, 2018

I hope this review gets a response from AHS. Can't think of any other way to get one. Like the others who have reviewed this company, the work that I needed done still has not been completed (since August) and my blood pressure has hit the roof. The sad part is that a couple years ago they were responsive and my repair was done well and on time. Not sure what has happened to the company but it is frustrating beyond anything I have experienced, and I still cannot get a response from them.

It doesn't seem like these terrible reviews matter to them at all. If you don't already have AHS I would steer clear of them until you see some positive reviews. There is not ONE positive review for them on Yelp and there are two listings for the same company on Yelp, probably because AHS has multiple phone numbers, none of which are answered in less than an hour.

I had a leak in my bathroom. The first repair company never called or contacted me despite many efforts to reach them. AHS then sent another company, and again it took weeks to get any contact from them. AHS then tells me "someone" canceled the service order! (WTF?) They then restart the repair order, and the repair company has been out to the house more than three times, and now in addition to the original leak, we have no hot water in that shower. No response from AHS and was told by their phone robot that the "hold time is greater than one hour." So instead of sitting on hold for more than an hour, I am writing this review.

They encouraged me to buy coverage for a specific item and then as I sought assistance they denied the very thing they said they would cover. Specifically, the reps will put you on hold up to 2 hours and parse out every word in the contract to deny coverage if the words are in there that say it will be covered. It is an unbelievable scheme they have. The training they receive is to deny...deny...deny...even when the customer is right and has followed their instructions. My course now is to take every opportunity to inform the public of how this American Home Shield works in the background as I have it well documented.

Updated on 12/03/2018: After waiting more than an hour, talking about 15 minutes, agent hung up. She has my phone number. Did not call back. This is a continuation of all the problems they have not addressed. This is 2nd home I've had contract. It was always hard to contact and get help. No service people close to my home. No one wants to come here and I suspect AHS tells them they will not pay for fixing problems.

Original Review: The 2 companies they have available are hour & half away. Not interested in 3 hrs on road. One company came twice, never had a tool or inspected inside unit. For the present time, he said to leave both units on fan at 70 degrees. Utility bill was $270. Six weeks later I switched to auto and 74. Bill went down $50.00. He said what needed to be done would not be covered by warranty co. Two ton unit would be $10,000. I'm 67, but not stupid. Told him I would think about it.

Second repairman came, with tools! Opened unit. There were loose wires. Fixed those. But because his paperwork did not include other issues, including 2nd unit, he couldn't work on it. Ductwork is covered under my policy. The incorrect installation was not able to be seen during the inspection last December. The repairmen won't even try to explain that the reason certain rooms are hot (not noted until spring) is because the basement ductwork is run to the main floor master bedroom. No one is living in the basement. Unit doesn't need to be turned on, except for the fact that the master bedroom needs air.

Basement is already cool, so thermostat has to be set really low to make unit turn on. I moved into this house in February. I have had other issues. They either don't know how to fix the problem, don't have the part, and never come back. Stay away from this company if you live in a rural area. They don't cover chandeliers that fall due to poor insulation, or so the agent told me.

I have American Home Shield on my home that I used to care for my father and the tenant called that the light switch in one of the bathrooms was out. I called AHS and my experience wasn't too good because I did not know my AHS had expired. I never got an email or a message from AHS so I was so surprised when they told me. Then, the person I was talking to couldn't help me and I had to call somebody else. I had to wait until the weekend was over because that person wasn't in until Monday. I called the tenant back and told them we couldn't do anything yet and it was a mess. It made me feel like AHS needed to do more about their communications with their customers and give them a heads up when the policy expires.

When I finally got that straightened out, they took my request for service and did it right away. The electrician went in and replaced it. It was very simple and took just a couple of minutes. I've never had bad service with American Home Shield and if it weren't for that, I probably would have not renewed at that time, after having that telephone experience with the reps.

I have been with American Home Shield for a year. We got it when we bought the house and the real estate company provided one year free. When submitting a claim, I usually talk to someone. My biggest problem though is that they don't have enough people working and it takes them 20 minutes to half an hour if you sit on hold. While you can do the callback where you put in your number, it still takes over half an hour for them to call you back. But so far, the contractors they've sent out have been fine. We’ve had several claims since we bought this house and the contractors are always there within a day. Like when my air conditioning went out, they’ve gotten people out here pretty quick. Still, it took three days for it to be repaired since they had to order in the part from out of state.

They needed to check my furnace again and I’m glad that when I called them to have them come back out it was within like a 30-day period. I told them that I didn’t think that I should have to pay another $75 because it was happening so soon, and they agreed with me. The rep talked with her supervisor and let me know that they were gonna deduct that payment. But the only problem is they kept sending me notices that I owed them $75, and I had to call them back a couple times but they did eventually solve it.

However, what frustrated me was when the technician came out, what was needed to be fixed didn’t get fixed the first time. I had an older plumbing and heating system that malfunctioned after it was cleaned out. The technician had to come out again and I got charged again. The same thing happened before because I had another claim with my dryer. Other than that, AHS' people take care of business. It would be cool if they could just get it done the first time.

Brandt Appliance Services did our refrigerator before and this last time, they did the dryer. The dryer turned itself off but my clothes weren't dry and when I started the dryer, it was clunking then it turned itself off. Apparently, when I shoved the filter back in, a sock went in with it and wrapped around the motor. The technician found that out and took the sock out.

I like Brandt because unfortunately, American Home Shield sometimes gets people that come from Orlando. That’s two hours away and they come on certain days whereas Brandt is 15 minutes down the road. If you have an issue, you’ve got them and they’re better with scheduling. They get you in a day and they have a two-hour window. Plus they do a good job. I’m very pleased with them.

I bought my house in the ‘80s and I’ve had American Home Shield for close to 20 years. When my husband bought his house, I also talked him into American Home Shield as well. I even got my mother to do it when my father died in 2008. My dad used to fix everything and when he died, I wanted somebody that I know was reliable to take care of her and do the job. And I knew American Home Shield would send reliable people.

It worked out really nicely too because when she died in 2016, her air conditioner died. We were dealing with the memorial and we didn’t need a hot house with everybody coming down. American Home Shield got somebody there because it was in August and it’s Florida. A year later, something went wrong because of that vendor and the new company said they had done a really crappy job. The new company needed to redo the ductwork connection and that was all taken care of by American Home Shield at no extra cost. So American Home Shield stood behind. I don’t think they even deal with the first company after.

The new company that came out was excellent. Last year, we had the air conditioner die and they came out four times. It was one of those situations where you fix it here and it's working fine. But then, no. It's got a little more problem. It was an older system so that happens. Plus my husband worked air conditioning at the Space Center so he supervised and the guy did as much as he could at the time. My husband couldn't fault his quality work. It’s just that there was more than one problem and the little problems don’t show up when you have the big problem in front of your face. The company was really good about coming back until it was fixed and by the fourth time, it was really fixed. The thing is that you have 60 days for a contractor to work out everything, which is nice. That’s why I like American Home Shield and why I have been staying with them.

Also, if you do have a problem with a vendor, American Home Shield will listen to you over the vendor. You’re their client. The vendor is just their worker. Your comments have more weight. I had an issue when they were fixing my mom’s pool and this guy was doing a crappy job. He had been out here three times and the pool was still an issue. So I got somebody else out locally. American Home Shield only had one vendor that did pools so I took the pool off the thing. The vendor before was good though, but sometimes, American Home Shield can't get a local vendor and they send other people. But if you don’t like the vendor, you have the right not to have it. That’s what’s nice. They pick you over the vendor.

I’ve also recommended American Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I was telling my friends up in Sanford about American Home Shield for about seven years. Then finally, they freaking listened to me and got the service. Within a year, their stove died then their fridge died within two weeks of that. Then within a month, their dryer died. The stove could be fixed but it was 25 years old and I suggested that they not get it fixed. I told them to get the repair quote, take that money, go to Lowe's, get the 10% off for military and use their Discover credit. And they got a new stove. By then, they knew what to do with the fridge. They couldn't believe American Home Shield had taken such good care of them.

I had a garage door opener issue and Brown's Garage Doors out of Spicewood, Texas that AHS sent out was excellent. They made an appointment, immediately showed up when they said they were gonna show up and worked on it for about 45 minutes. They were very special and knew exactly what they were doing. Some of the items wasn't covered by AHS, which I was fine with, but it was all clear. The tech called, described what the problem was, and when he got here, he had all the parts he thought he may need. He showed up and fixed it, and he was right.

We are in a retirement community and people are always looking for good people to work on things. For people in areas like ours, one of the biggest assets is the ability to refer competent people. I've had two other guys out. One came out, looked at my issue, but he never showed up again. Another guy came out, looked at it and sprayed oil and said, "That ought to do it." But with the competent craftsman that came, even if AHS hadn't covered anything, it was worth it. I have recommended the contractor that AHS referred to me to other people who I know are having some issues. Some of the people here are totally befuddled and doesn't really know how to track people down and I have advised them to consider using AHS because it takes the hunt out of it for them and AHS will refer, talk to the person, and follow up.

I have been a customer of AHS for 3 years now. About a month ago, I put in my first repair request for 3 appliances and since then it has been a multitude of issues. It started with a mix up in which Sears was only notified of repairing 1 appliance instead of 3. So Sears came out to the house to look at the microwave on October 24th. They informed my wife that the microwave was not safe to use and they unplugged it. They also told her that they were ordering parts for it.

Sears then came out on October 31st to look at the other 2 appliances. They determined that parts needed to be ordered for them as well. I then waited for the parts to arrive.

We received some parts for the refrigerator and dishwasher, but not all of them. I finally contacted Sears on Thursday, November 8th. They told me that the parts had been back ordered and to give them until Monday to try and locate the parts. I waited to call Sears back until Monday, November 12th. I was told that they did not have the parts and to contact AHS about getting a replacement.

Since it was late, I contacted AHS on Tuesday. I spoke with a William ** who said that he would look into the appliance claim and call me back on Wednesday at 3:30 PM CDT. He offered refunding me the $100 service fee for my troubles with getting disconnected and not having my appliances repaired. I spent just under an hour on the phone on Tuesday with AHS and spent about 30 minutes on the phone with Sears.

On Wednesday, I never received a call back from William, and so I contacted Sears and was on the phone with them for over an hour in which they eventually told me that they could not locate the parts. After being on hold with AHS for about 40 minutes, I finally spoke to someone who told me that the parts were in process and to wait for them to arrive and the person who I talked to could not find any record of William. I then asked to speak to a manager and was connected with Anthony (he said he was not allowed to give out his last name). Anthony assured me that he would get me an ETA for all of the parts and would give me a call back on Thursday at 2:00 PM.

On Wednesday, I was on the phone with AHS for over 4 hours and on the phone with Sears for over an hour. On Thursday, I called AHS after not receiving a callback from Anthony and waited on hold for 1 hour and 20 minutes to just speak to someone. I was told the same thing that the parts were in process and that an ETA could not be given. I asked for a Supervisor and they transferred my call to Stephanie. She told me that she was going to contact Sears the next day and find out what the ETA is for the parts. She also assured me that she would call me on Friday with an update between 2:30 and 3:00. I asked for her last name or if she could send me an email confirming this, but she said that she was not allowed. She did give me an email address and an Activity #. I am now waiting to see if I get a response.

On Friday, I received an email from Sears for me to call them about my parts. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Sears and they eventually told me that the parts are on back order and are not currently available. I was only able to find this out when I was speaking to a supervisor. I asked them to send that info to AHS. They told me that AHS already knows, but that they would send the emails to AHS again. I then decided to follow-up with AHS around 11:30. I was on the phone with AHS for the next 3 hours. Unfortunately, I got disconnected or I would probably still be on the phone with them. I was speaking with a supervisor, but she was not helpful. She kept on changing the story on the parts. She said that the parts were on back order, then the parts were available and in process, then the parts were ready to ship, then the parts were not available.

She requested that I give Sears 5-7 business days to locate the parts and then call back. I told her that this was not acceptable. She said there was nothing else that she could do and that the circumstances are out of AHS’s control. I asked her why they won't replace the microwave and she told me that they had not received a diagnosis from the contractor, but it was requested and I should receive a call from the claims departments in 2 business days. (I won't be counting on it since they have not called me yet.)

It has now been 23 days since we had a microwave and it does not appear that it will be fixed in the next week or two. I am being told by Sears that they cannot locate the parts, but AHS keeps giving me the runaround and unbelievable hold times. I thought dealing with First American Home Buyers was bad, but so far my treatment by AHS has been worse. When I was contacted by AHS to switch to them 3 years ago, I was told that I would not have long hold times and that if my appliance could not be fixed in reasonable time frame then it would be replaced. So far it seems like everything that I have been promised by AHS has been a lie.

I usually submit claims to American Home Shield depending on what time of the day. If it was during the normal working hours then I would use the phone because you wouldn't have to wait very long or leave messages. But if something happened after the evening then I would go on the internet. My most recent claim was about a leaky faucet outside my house and I submitted that claim online. The website was very user-friendly. I got in right away and explained what was going on. Then I got an email. They let me know really quickly. The next day, I got a call early in the morning. We made an appointment and the guy came out. I showed him what needed to be done. Then it took him about 20 minutes to do what needed to be done and he had it fixed. Everything has worked fine since then.

I've never had an issue with American Home Shield or the people they've sent out. A contractor had to come out a few times for the air conditioner and they fixed that immediately. Then when I turned the heater part on about three weeks ago, someone also had to come out. The contractor came out the next day and said it was the fan. They said they would come back, which they did. The fan was put in and it's worked great ever since.

We purchased the house and it had a variety of locks and different keys. We thought it would be helpful to have all of the locks on the same key. Then, we noticed that it was partially covered on our American Home Shield policy so I called the 800 number and asked about it. They put us in touch with A-1 Locksmith who contacted us right away, scheduled the time to come out and spent a few hours getting all the locks rekeyed. The locksmith was very friendly and he knew what he was doing. He was down to business.

Some of the cost was picked up by AHS and then we had to pay some additional because there were more locks that were not covered, which we were willing to do. A-1 Locksmith provided good service and we were pleased with the outcome. We have used American Home Shield before and when we made the offer, we included it and it was a smart move. AHS is good and it gives me a sense of security that if something goes wrong, you got some coverage. I’m very positive about it.

It’s definitely worth it and they’re a lot better than First American. Our pool pump was making a lot of noise, and I filed a claim on the website so that AHS could come and get it looked at. The contractor contacted me in less than 24 hours, and he was out that day. He was very professional, knowledgeable and gave good communication. Everything was fixed in less than 48 hours, and it was fast and easy.

My dryer wasn’t drying and my electric touch faucet stopped working. I filed the claims separately online with American Home Shield. Both times, the original contractor either didn't return calls or wasn't able to get out within a reasonable amount of time, so I had to call back and get another contractor to come out and the ones that I finally got have been fine. For the dryer, they were able to sort of fix it and tell me what was going on. It doesn't always dry and I have to do a couple of things in order to make it dry. But it was not really a mechanical issue and the contractor cannot do anything about it anymore.

For the faucet, they sent out a plumber today who said that it has to be replaced. It's a pretty expensive faucet, so I have to figure out if AHS is gonna pay for it or not. Today, I tried to call to get more information about the faucet and I was on hold for about an hour. I've been pretty unhappy with the wait time. The first time was about 45 minutes and when I talked to somebody, I got disconnected. Then, I called back and I waited another 20 minutes.

The rep told me what the process was and how long it would take. I was very pleased with that. But then, when I kept going back to the site, it still said somebody was gonna call me. So, it would be nice if it’s updated. But the contractors were very nice. They delivered it and were in and out in 15 minutes. I’m perfectly happy.

When we had a claim for the pool pump, the pool pump guy came out, saw what he needed to see, and ordered the part. When the part came in, he came out right away, fixed it, and he was on his merry way. That went beautifully and I had every idea that the same thing was gonna happen with my furnace claim. I called in the claim a week ago for my furnace and it is not going well at all. American Home Shield took the information when I called them on Thursday, and then they sent somebody out on Friday. They didn’t like the estimate so they sent somebody out Saturday, and that person was incompetent. He could not give me a day or when he could get out here. Somewhere around Wednesday the following week, I got a call from his office scheduling them to come and replace the furnace on Saturday.

I called Friday morning to confirm, and the guy said that that was not the case and somebody made a mistake. He was not coming out because he was too busy. I told him that it's snowing and there's no heat in the house. He said he could maybe get out on Monday. But I am not super confident in this man's abilities or in his word that he'll be out on Monday. I don’t think there's any way to speed him up and I'm afraid that if we say anything more, then it's gonna make it worse and we're at his mercy. Heat in the house in Michigan is a basic need. We've had space heaters going, but that's not ideal. When we're not home, we turn them off. It's not safe to have them on. So when we get home, it takes a good couple of hours for it to even get up to 65 degrees.

We’ve used American Home Shield for a few years and overall, it’s been very good. However, this past year, I’ve noticed a difference. Our hot water heater unit was 25 years old and the original put in was high-end but there was a lot of excuses made in order to not repair it or replace it. We followed up by numerous calls where we were on hold for 30 minutes so it was aggravating. If you leave a message for a manager and they call back in 48 hours, that person seemed to be more on the same page. This was after about a week and we still didn’t have hot water. Luckily, we have two hot water heaters but it was really frustrating.

AHS replaced it only after we agreed to what they called a $300 fee for upgrades and that ended up being the cost of the unit that they delivered. By this point, you’re so exacerbated in trying to fight the situation that you just let it go. They took care of overall repairs but replacing something was not gonna happen. We picked AHS because we have a Sub-Zero refrigerator worth $8,000 and they claimed that they would replace up to 5,000 on an item. One lady said that was what they would do and another lady said they wouldn’t. If they replace it, it would be with the most basic unit they could put in there. Their service has gone way downhill. However, in all fairness, they’ve been pretty good on the repairs.

Hopefully we don't have any more issues with it because that was like number four of having somebody come out for the unit. I usually file a claim online and the website navigation has been easy, clear-cut and dry. All four of the contractors AHS sent has also been great.

However, when I called AHS I got somebody who did not seem to understand the words that came out of my mouth. They were speaking English but there was some miscommunication there. I had an issue recently regarding the service fee and I got nowhere with them. I was trying to explain I had already paid and all the guy did was say he was sorry, but nothing was showing off on his end. In order for me to get anything done, I've actually had to call a number that I think is a direct line. A lady figured out where it was and she took care of it wonderfully.

My most recent claim was the replacement of a refrigerator, and I was purchasing a freezer so that it would match. The contractor that came out was fine, very thorough and relatively quick. He diagnosed what the problem was, and it was no problem. But from the first visit, everything went bad. To this very minute, I have not gotten my refrigerator or my freezer. I ordered it through Sears, so I set up the initial time. I ordered the products and they said they would deliver in two weeks. Two weeks came. The delivery company called the day before and said, “We’re gonna be delivering your items tomorrow between x and y time.” But by 8:30 that day, I got a robocall that said, “We’re sorry, but we’re not able to make the delivery for the items’ permit.”

I called and they said, “We don’t have your product yet. The manufacturer hasn’t sent it to us in the warehouse. We’re gonna wait another two weeks.” That went on for four times. The fourth time, which was this past Monday, I called American Home Shield and cancelled my order for the two items. I’ve chosen to exercise the cash-out where I can get the item myself, send the receipt and get the money back. But whatever is happening with Sears is a travesty and a bad representation for American Home Shield. Instead of admitting that they don’t have the product and that they can’t get it for 10 months, they’ll just keep punting two weeks at a time. I’ve been without a refrigerator for two solid months, and I’m not going into Thanksgiving without a refrigerator.

Sears gave me a route that routed me back to where I started once American Home Shield signed off and made the order for me to get the new appliance. The guy literally said, “Sir, if you don’t set the date for delivery, we will continue to call you.” And I said, “You’re not understanding what I’m saying. I have cancelled the order for these two items.” He must not have taken me out of the system because they’re calling me and saying that the products are still on their way. But I don’t attribute that to American Home Shield. It’s unfortunately who they are working with, and unfortunately, it’s through Sears. Getting to American Home Shield is fine, but the customer service or the delivery company related to my most recent transaction was quite a challenge.

However due to AHS and their horrible and unorganized way of handling this claim, I had no running water to my home for 7 days. There were over 1000$ of uncovered costs in their fine print, and they offered nothing but a 1-night stay at a hotel for a family of 5. We have to work and my daughters have school and work. And we had to get our own hotel rooms to be able to shower. The attorney general should have done something because I have read so many bad reviews on Facebook about their service especially when it involves air conditioning and water heaters. Very sketchy and no integrity. I’m scared they won’t pay for any ac breakdowns now. They really need a serious overhaul and better approach to handling customer concerns. We have had American Home Shield for about 2 years now, and they are an effective repair option for ordinary repairs and issues that are not very complicated. However, the repair of either more expensive appliances (i.e. Viking) can be very problematic. In September our Viking Professional Electric Range had one burner on top out. We contacted American Home Shield, who sent out a company to repair our range. That company came out, attempted to repair the one burner, and instead shorted or damaged all 4 switches and burners so that the cooktop was not functional at all.

American Home Shield said if it was not possible to repair it, they would offer us a buyout to cover replacement. This is a $6000-7000 appliance, so it's not cheap to replace. The buyout offer was around $1500-2500. I thought they would offer more as their repair contractor was the one who destroyed the other burners rendering it a problem.

We found another local appliance repair company with more experience with Viking products, and they came out to assess the appliance. They indicated it was repairable for about $1000-1500. When I called AHS delighted to be able to repair it instead of replacing it, I was given a huge runaround and told that the only option was buyout now. Why would they only offer buyout instead of repair? The repair is cheaper for them and for us, and they have previously always offered to pursue repair as opposed to replacement. I've been on the phone for 1.5-2 hours now, most of it spent on hold waiting to speak to someone, and I have been transferred 3 times.

I am normally very fair and understanding when it comes to this process with home warranties, but I cannot believe the runaround I'm getting and the wait times I'm experiencing to talk to someone who can fix this issue. My recommendation is that instead of paying for AHS, just set aside that money per month towards repairs and replacement. If you include the $75 or $100 service fee they charge for having a contractor come out and assess, you would probably cover the cost of repairs with that money. If they respond to this and attempt to resolve it, I'll be happy to re-evaluate my experience with this company. But I am not hopeful.

They couldn't pull up my account information, so it took me around four days to initiate a claim. And every time I call American Home Shield, I could be on hold for an extended period of time. I’ve had other warranty companies and AHS is, by far, the worst. But it did not take that long at all for them to send the contractors out to our home. The contractors were fantastic too. I had used State Electric before in my other property and they were pretty expedient. They sent the same individual and he was great. His service was very professional. He was very thorough and he got right to work. Everything has been fine since the repair.

I called AHS to submit a claim for my washer and microwave. Their rep was super professional. They gave me a contact from Baltimore or Maryland which I called. They told me they couldn't get to me for 10 days so I called American Home Shield right back, and the lady gave me somebody else that was working on Wilmington. She gave me their number and she contacted and gave the contractor my number as well. They contacted me, then we talked. It took the contractor a day short of a week to come. His professionalism was great and everything has been operating perfectly since the repair.

But the problem was that the other guy that they canceled tried to come too and billed American Home Shield that's why my bill was for $150, when it should be just $75. I was really shocked. I told the lady to investigate them because there's no telling how many people he's done that to. The lady put me on hold and called the other people that said the contractor came out. She said that she just got off the phone with them and said that he did come out. I said, "That man is an absolute liar because he never came to my home." American Home Shield is still billing for both and I've been calling since forever but nobody has been answering the phone. But other than this billing situation, I was very satisfied with the experience.

I spoke to their reps before and they were courteous. However, they had my account number incorrectly so that got a little frustrating. It was just one number but I had to call several times to get my checking account straightened out. But as far as helping with any claims, my interaction with them was great. The technician that came out to do the AC repair was professional and they got in touch with me right away. However, we got stuck on Labor Day weekend so we had to wait a little bit over that. Otherwise, I like AHS 'cause I had been told before that the air conditioner unit could not be fixed, so the technician came in and looked at it. American Home Shield has done really well for me and I would recommend them.

We had issues with our AC a couple of times and we submitted our claim online but then we ended up calling too because it was easier telling them about the issue over the phone. But for all the times that we called them, our experience was good. We had a very big problem, however, with one of the contractors. Most of the time when they came out here, they didn’t care and they just wanted to Band-Aid everything. So finally, after a while of going through the chains of who we had to call, AHS decided that they were gonna turn around and sent out a different contractor which we had better luck with. After the third guy came out here and did everything, the AC had been working perfectly.

It sounded like it was stuck to begin with and I tried to reset it with the switch on the bottom and there was nothing. I spoke with the contractors, but they called me after they got the appointment notification and they wanted to know what model I had at the present. So, when I got home, I read off the serial number to them so they could determine what model number it was. They said they would have one on the truck just in case it had to be repaired based on how long we had had that one in the house because they have a history of going bad after X amount of time.

The technician came and the machine was shot so he had to call American Home Shield and get authorization to replace the unit. They kept him on the phone forever so it seemed like it took an eternity to get this done and I felt bad for him because it was raining heavily the whole time that he was out there. Nevertheless, we have not had any problems with AHS. They were great about paying the claims and getting things done in a timely manner.

I have a dishwasher that I requested service for at the beginning of August (it is now mid-November and still not repaired). The repairman came, told me he had to order the part. 3 weeks later the part was delivered. He came back and told me it was cracked. Then he reordered it. Same thing happened 2 more times. Finally the part arrived and it was not cracked, but he realized that he can't fix it because he needs to schedule a plumber to chain the pipe under the dishwasher to a flexible hose. It has been 4 weeks since the new part came to my house. They still have not scheduled the plumber. I called AHS, and after being on hold for an hour... I finally get the Indian customer service rep... If he says he's sorry one more time... He promised that the plumber would call to schedule within 3 business days. That was 3 weeks ago.

I called to cancel my policy today. Was on hold for 45 minutes... And the customer service rep said he has to transfer me to the cancellation/retention department. After being on hold for an additional 20 minutes, I get an automated message saying, "you have been on hold for greater than 2 minutes please go to our website and fill out an "e-contact" form and someone will contact you within 24 hours. I have searched their website and have not found any form to fill out. I am now going to try to cancel the payments through my credit card company. So that's the story with the dishwasher.

On November 5th, I called AHS for my dryer which stopped working. A rep from Express Appliance called the next day and left me a message to call back to schedule the appointment for evaluation of my dryer. FYI, this is the same company "fixing" my dishwasher. I have called and left 4 messages and have yet to have them schedule the evaluation. I have called in the morning, at noon, later in the day... You never get a live person only an automated message. I think AHS hires awful repair companies... They clearly are not getting paid enough money if they don't want to service AHS customers.

So basically AHS SUCKS... I have not had a dishwasher for 3 months and now have been without a dryer for the past 10 days. I want to get my money back from AHS and just call a local repairmen who can fix it and I would pay out of pocket. But I can't cancel my policy because they make it very difficult. HELP YELP. I would love to begin a class action lawsuit against AHS for months without service to appliances and a lot of aggravation for being on hold forever and being "sorried." Yes I know that is probably not a word, but I can't hear another "I'm sorry" one more time.

They sent out an technician from a local company and he said that he had fixed it. On November 1 of this year I tried to put on the heat and found the pilot light off once again. I relit it and waited for the furnace to cycle off. The pilot light went off once again.

I called AHS to have them send the technician back and he tried to relight the pilot and the furnace exploded. He was injured but not seriously. He "condemned" the furnace and said there was a crack in the heat exchanger and we would need a new furnace. That was almost more than 10 days ago and we are still without heat and the nights are below freezing. I've tried to call and speak to AHS only to be told that the wait is "over 1 hour" on hold. This has happened repeatedly. I spent 30 minutes at the AHS website and was unable to find a way to e-mail the company.

I received a phone call today from the heating company who said that they were told that AHS has still not ordered the new furnace that I need. This is now 2 weeks without heat. I believe that AHS is acting in bad faith and is not available to answer my questions nor hear my complaints. They are minus 0 for customer support. I wonder if they are dishonest as well. I will quit this program as soon as possible.

I put in a request for service on October 11, 2018 (over one month ago) for a broken over-the-counter microwave. A contractor arranged by AHS came out October 16 and determined two parts were needed but stated that AHS would only authorize one part per visit. It took over two weeks for the part to be delivered to the contractor and for the contractor to come out. On November 9, the contractor came out, installed the new part, and reiterated that a second part was necessary and had to be ordered.

AHS claimed on November 14th that the contractor did not order the second part, and attempted to contact the contractor but no response. I left messages for the contractor yesterday and today - no response. I was on hold with AHS for over one hour today, called back again and was advised by recording that the hold time would be more than one hour. No option to leave a call back request. Thanksgiving is one week from now and I have little hope that AHS will complete the repair or honor its contract. Very disappointed in the lack of service, the lack of communication, and the breach of contract.

I asked for service on my furnace and unfortunately it was on a Friday. I had two small children staying the weekend, and my furnace went out Friday morning. It was 35 degrees in my home!!! I requested service in the morning and nothing happened!!! I called AHS when I got home from work because they had left a message. I stayed on hold for nearly 25 minutes and when I finally got someone, they could barely speak English! I explained that I needed someone to come out and look at my furnace, that I had two small children in the house for the weekend, and it was 35 degrees! The rep said they could find no contractor. Said they would continue to try and call the next morning. Got a call at 8am and was told that Rosenthal Heating would be calling me within a half an hour. I waited an hour or more with no call, so I called back to AHS. I waited another 35 minutes for someone to answer.

Finally someone did and again could barely speak English. I told her I wanted to speak to her supervisor or manager and she hung up on me!! I called again and waited again a substantial amount of time, and again someone who could barely understand answered. I again asked for a supervisor and they told me that no one was available. I went ahead and explained that this Rosenthal Heating was supposed to have called me (and by the way I called them) they told me that no one from AHS had called them and if I wanted service on a Saturday that I would have to pay an additional $175 for him to come or wait until Monday when it wasn't over the service fee!! I explained AGAIN that my house was freezing, small children at home etc. No caring response!!!

I asked about going out of the plan since AHS could not find a contractor for me. I was put on hold for 21 minutes and when they came back was told that it was up to me to find someone who would accept the job, but I would have to pay up front and service fees, then turn in the bill and IF it was approved, I could get reimbursed. The contractor put a temporary fix on the furnace so I at least had heat for the freezing children and myself, but said that my furnace needed a part replacement that he didn't have available on his truck and he said his company would not make the deal to get paid with AHS because they had gotten burned on the bill several times previous. He suggested that I have them send another contractor out to replace the part I needed so it would be covered under the contract I have with AHS.

Since the weekend nightmare, I have been trying to get them back on the phone to explain that I want reimbursement on the billing for the other company to come out and I also still need a contractor to come out and I didn't want it to be Rosenthal because they were so rude to me when I called them and so unsympathetic about the fact that I needed to have the problem taken care of ASAP.

My furnace is still not repaired and I just don't have the time to continue to wait on hold forever. They have no email way of contacting anyone and NO ONE in the vicinity either. When I have more time, I will continue to try and get a hold of these people, but in my opinion they need a customer service staff that understands what it's like to be freezing in your own home and have your hands tied dependently on someone else. I essentially paid for a service that never happened, paid additionally for one that did, and I still don't have a completely repaired appliance.

I recently purchased an AHS policy with my first home to provide a little peace of mind. Unfortunately, shortly into my home ownership there was a stoppage in the drain line for the washing machine. After it was clear that I was not going to be able to fix the problem myself I contacted AHS; who promptly sent a service company out to address the problem. The representative from this provider spent a grand total of roughly 15 minutes attempting to "fix" the issue and told me that AHS would have to send a second company out. The next day the second service company arrived and performed the identical task with the same level of success. The second service provider proceeded to tell me that the drain line was collapsed and that AHS would not cover the line. He also informed me that he could perform the work to address the issue for a sum of money but unfortunately AHS would not cover this work.

I declined his offer and had a 3rd party who is not affiliated with AHS come by to diagnose the issue. This individual performed the same task as the first two but with one major difference... It worked. I contacted AHS to discuss the situation and the invoice from the 3rd party. Unfortunately, after an afternoon of waiting on hold and being hung up on twice by AHS representatives I decided to move on with my day and the issue is still pending. I would strongly recommend thinking twice when considering the service. The providers sent out by AHS have no incentive to actually fix problems. Their only incentive is to get as many "service requests" as possible and to sell you non-covered items (not a terrible business plan). Cheers, I hope me taking the time to rant prevents someone else from a similar experience.

We have had AHS for 2 years. The first year was ok with them coming out to fix a minor plumbing problem as well as some minor heater issues. Fast forward to this year and we have not had a working dishwasher since AUGUST. It is now November 14th. You can never get someone on the phone and all you get is the runaround. First, they assigned us to a contractor that no longer existed. It took weeks to get that straightened out before they assigned us to a new one. We have had techs out 4 times and they finally told us 2 weeks ago they would just have to replace the dishwasher. Where is it! Every time we call AHS they blame it on the contractor, we call the contractor and they don't call back. We are having 50+ people in our house for Thanksgiving with NO DISHWASHER and the WORST customer service from AHS.

We also had major issues with them after a suspected gas leak. Peco came out and said they suspected there was a problem with our furnace and shut the gas off. We call AHS and tell them there is a furnace problem and what do they do, they send out an air conditioner guy. He couldn't help. It then took 2 weeks of constant phone calls before the right tech was sent. We were without gas and hot water for 4 weeks for a repair that consisted of a tech cleaning out a clog with a freaking paper clip. Why??? Because of the incredibly poor service provided by AHS. I am telling everyone who will listen not to waste your time. If your concern is running into an unexpected expense, places like Horizon now have payment plans. Don't get ripped off by someone who will take your money and not provide any service. We are also filling a BBB complaint to see if we can finally get a working dishwasher.

One time, my clothes washer was wobbly and was making a lot of noise. I filed a claim to AHS and the tech they sent came and adjusted the height. He then said it was okay. However, it was never okay. We managed, but the problem was not resolved. We were told to separate all kinds of clothes and that’s not the way we do laundry, so the washer is still a bit off. If the tech comes out, I’m not going to get a different answer, so we did not get back to American Home Shield. If somebody could contact us regarding the washer, we will be more specific.

The contractor was average and we trusted him because we are not the experts. It was a balance problem. First, he thought it was a problem with the machine, then he said it was the height, so he adjusted the leg. Then, he said that I had to separate all the clothes so that it would be even. We tried to do that, but it was still the same after he left. While the tech was there, it looked reasonable because there was not much going into the wash load. A common wash load is going to cause problems. We noticed that we can solve the problem by inserting stuff down, but still the problem was not solved. It was the same temporary fix we had before the tech arrived.

I went online on the 18th and submitted my request for service to American Home Shield. I did not get a response at all but I was wondering why I got an email saying that the service request had been received. I was also told one group of people would be contacting me within 24 hours but that person that they were saying in the email never contacted me so I thought that it might be an issue with my phone. I have my home phone and was in the process of changing phones so I gave them that.

I went and looked online, and saw something from Sears. I called the number that was there. The person who answered the phone at Sears had no idea who I was and was asking me for information that I couldn't provide. It wasn't on my account so I ended up having to call American Home Shield on the 23rd of October and got someone to finally get through to Sears and have them come to my house to look at my dishwasher.

They finally came to my home on Wednesday, October 24th. The guy came to my house, looked at my dishwasher and said that it needed a part replacement. He said he called and got approval on the phone to order the part. He did that and left me with the receipt which I have in my kitchen drawer in case I have to refer to it. He said it would take him two weeks to come back. I was disturbed by that and he said that was his schedule and I noted on my calendar that November 8th was the earliest he could get back.

November 8th came and went. I waited for the part and watched for it. I was told that the part was gonna come to my house, but it never came. Right now, we are washing dishes by hand. If I have company over, it's a lot of dishes and no place to put them. I have to wash them little by little to get rid of them so we resorted to paper plates and forks until we can get our dishwasher fixed.

I called to check and see what was going on. I ended up speaking to Lan and all he told me was that they have 21 business days to order the part but no one told me that. I tried to get some understanding from Lan and all he did was dictate to me what she was reading and what Daphne at Sears was telling them. I asked to speak to a supervisor, so she gave me Christina. Christina looked and said that Sears went out to one buyer but they no longer carry and cannot supply the part. They had to go out and find another buyer. I was questioning what they were doing and I was asking why I had to wait. We got into a discussion about waiting 21 business days. My account online still says, "October 23rd, reviewing for repair approval." Nothing was updated and that was unacceptable. She said she was gonna call Sears and talk to them on what else can they do and what else can they offer me if they can't get the part.

American Home Shield was putting everything on Sears. We went back and forth for a minute. Christina said she would call me back the very next day. She would get in touch with Sears and find out the status of finding a part. Then, the 21 days changed to 14 to 21 business days. 12 business days would have been Friday, November 9th. She said she would call me back but I didn't hear from her. On the 9th of November, still didn't hear from her. I called back the beginning of this week and talked to Gary. After I got off the phone with them, I saw where there was a little box where you get live communication, so I decided to get on that box.

On the 17th of November, I was online with Christina for 1 hour and 20 minutes trying to get this cleared up. With Gary, I was online for almost an hour. They put me on hold and left me, hoping I would just hang up and go away, but I didn't. When I got off the line with Gary, he was telling me that I would have to talk to his legal department to file a complaint. I saw live chat so I got on and spoke to Maribel. She worked with me, but I told her the runaround I was getting and I couldn't file a complaint or go beyond this people. I went on and filed my complaint with my Attorney General to let my Attorney General in Ohio get through to somebody who would get through to American Home Shield and make them understand what I was dealing with.

As it stands today, Maribel says she would look for the part because they, at American Home Shield, could look for the part I needed for my dishwasher. It would take them three to five business to find it. At this point, I have to assume that my dishwasher is not gonna be ready for me for Thanksgiving and I'm gonna have to eat at my sister's house. I'm still waiting for somebody at this very moment, to get back to me about the part that needs to be put into my dishwasher. Christina did email me back again but I'm almost ready to move to the next home warranty people. My first experience with them was when my tub was stopped up. A man came the same day, got it fixed, and I haven't had any problems since. So, I was pretty good. However, this diminished their rating with me and I'm almost ready to move to the next home warranty people.

We've used American Home Shield’s service a few times, and we like it and have recommended them. Recently our rental company called AHS because the AC on our home out in Arizona was down. Then AHS called us to verify that we wanted to do the repair and how to pay for it. The technician then called me and tell me what the situation was and what they could do with it. He was very helpful, gave me some options, and we went with the best option and went forward with that one.

There was potentially a leak in the system. But he said, “We don't want to take this off 'cause we had to do this whole testing, and it could be off for a couple of days while we're testing for leaks. So, let's repair it, get the coolant back in, and then in springtime, presuming that we have this leak still, then that's the time to take this down and look into it and try to repair it.” So far, the AC’s been working fine. AHS is worth every penny. Going with them would cost you at least $150 service call versus the $2,000 to repair the furnace right now.

It just cost us a small deductible but he took care of everything. AHS was easy to deal with and I was very happy with my first experience.

I had some problems with the light switch in my house. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. I called American Home Shield to file the claim and the representatives were okay. But it was back and forth. They give you 24 hours for them to notify the next person and then the next person gives you 48 hours before they send the repairman out. It just took time. It was a three-day process.

The second electrician they sent out was good but the first one wasn't. The first electrician took the light switch cover off and then did something. Then he tried the switch and the light went on. So they said that it was the dimmer in the switch that was causing the problem. So they just put in a regular switch with our dimmer, which was okay. But the second time I used the switch, it didn’t work at all. So I had another electrician come out and he figured out it was a wiring situation. He was really great. He was very friendly and nice.

When I called them to submit a claim, they sent out Ambrose Appliance which is a very fine group. They came out and at first I thought they had fixed the problem, but they didn’t. They had to come back and they did willingly and quickly. We were very pleased and my wife was very happy with the technician that came out. If a friend asks me about AHS, I would tell them to look at it it very closely and think very hard about taking it on because it’s a worthwhile group.

American Home Shield had one company come out for my washer and dryer but they didn't fix it. The guy that came out apparently replaced a belt, but either the belt wasn't the right belt and it snapped again, and the problem was worse than it was before he got there. I had to call another company and wait again. Hayes came out and did an evaluation. They had to order new parts and fix it. Everything was very well after that.

It has been a very easy process. I just called AHS and the rep takes care of it and all is good. The only problem is having to go through the system, things take longer to get taken care of than they normally would. And then say someone comes out and look at it, and then you're without whatever said appliances, and then you have to wait a week or so for action.

My washer, dryer, dishwasher and my AC needed to be fixed and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. The very first interaction I had with them was no problem but I didn't like the one after that. For the AC, everything went well and was scheduled properly. The company came out, did what they did, educated me on what I didn't know and fixed my AC unit.

But the dishwasher is still not fixed and I had to go to a laundromat and wash my clothes for $78. We started the claim in September and October has passed now and then November so it's been almost about a month and a half. Communication is not a good key and I have to constantly call back to figure out what's going on. The reps have told me that the person wasn't coming today to provide the parts. So the gentleman who came only talked about the dryer and then the dishwasher.

Every week, they send me an invoice even though they did not fix the dishwasher and dryer. They also sent a couple different vendors who tried to charge me different times which was not even explained to me so it was not a good experience. Also, every time one technician comes, they would give him the wrong information and he couldn't do anything and then, he has to come back after 10 days.

We're paying on a monthly basis and we're expecting that AHS is going to contact the vendors to assist us. The back and forth was the negative around it and I and my husband are not gonna refer anybody to AHS. We had them before and we didn't have this issue. We decided to come back and it's unfortunate the second time around was the worst experience. We're hoping that it doesn't continue that way if we continue services with them.

I have had this home warranty service for over 3 years and I'm not happy with it at all. The basics are that phoning in emergency calls can take hours at best (in the military so not usually an option) and there is no way to make an emergency claim online. This ended up costing me thousands for a covered claim because they took days to get to my rental. In addition, the plan auto renews and the premium charged increases because they put a dirty little clause in the contract saying they can auto renew the contract. I submitted several polite emails to the company asking to work through the issues I had but they aren't responsive after a year and a half. I really do hate to say this but they are probably one of the worst companies I have worked with. Do what you want but your money would be better spent elsewhere.

Up until this point, American Home Shield had been perfect. Everyone we've ever had to use had been reliable and trustworthy. But when my air conditioning quit working, I called American Home Shield and they sent out All Pro Air Solutions. And they just lie to you the whole time. They said I needed a new compressor which would come in three days and at the most, it would be five days. But the third and fourth days went by. On the fifth day, I started calling them but they wouldn't pick up. So I called American Home Shield and they said they would call the contractor. A few minutes later, the representative called back and said they had picked up. But she said that they never even ordered my compressor. The contractor said that the people who were here before did something to the unit and messed up. But that was a couple of years ago and it was somebody that American Home Shield also sent out.

He was trying to throw it back on the person who came before and messed something up. But were they ever gonna tell us? I never knew that and he just moved on. He should've just told me in the beginning that the air conditioning couldn't be fixed. We sat around for over a week, thinking our air conditioner was coming everyday. And he never even called it into American Home Shield. We were going on two weeks with no air conditioning in August in Texas. I am 73 and my husband is 75. It was so hot that we could barely breathe. We had to go buy a window unit to put in the house so that we could sleep. I didn't even get to use American Home Shield.

I've even come to find out that the guy has done this to other people in Lufkin and he's not even from Lufkin to start with. He's from a small town in this area. What they do is they come out and collect their $75 for their visit. They did the same thing to Jamie, my niece, and to the sister of the girl who cuts my hair. American Home Shield is losing people in Lufkin because of these people. My sister-in-law is a realtor and she said that All Pro was why she dropped American Home Shield. Jamie is her daughter and that's also why Jamie dropped American Home Shield.

But this is the only time we have ever had any problem with American Home Shield. We've had Truss & Son Plumbing and they are wonderful. If we have a problem, Truss comes and they are always A+. They are honest. In fact, if it wasn't for Truss, I wouldn't even have American Home Shield right now. But I know there's Old Republic and if I knew Truss does theirs also, I will change because of the experience with the air conditioning. I am very dissatisfied because I have never experienced anything like this before in my life. It was unbelievable. I'm sure American Home Shield knows about these people. I don't know why American Home Shield keeps using them.

But, every time I called them, they didn't pick up my call. I called back to American Home Shield and they also tried to get a hold of them but couldn't. So, American Home Shield had to move the service request to another contractor which turned out pretty good. They picked up my call and did a very good job. They were able to repair the AC. Other than that, it has been a good experience with American Home Shield. The only time I had a hard time submitting a request to them was when I was trying to get someone on the phone and I had to wait about an hour. The rest of the time, it’s been okay altogether.

I had a Bosch washer and it was leaking out the front door. The gentleman from American Home Shield came out and looked at it. We discussed and he felt that we needed a new gasket. I told him that I was going on a cruise and couldn't have it done until I got back. He was nice and told me he could handle that. Then, he forgot and called me while I was on the cruise but it was okay. I got in touch with him and we got it all set up for Monday. He was on the ball and when I let him know I was back in town, I got immediate feedback. He seems to be very helpful and I'm very pleased with him.

I have two policies and I submit claims online as it's easier than it is over the phone where I have to jump through too many hoops. But apart from that, I have had AHS for over 30 years and it has been a long relationship. I have them with five properties and they are always very pleasant to deal with. They're very knowledgeable and I enjoy working with them.

The air conditioner had a problem and we called American Home Shield. The claims was processed just fine but it took so long to get a vendor to come out. It wasn’t American Home Shield’s fault though. It was the vendor they used. It was right in the middle of summer when the air conditioner went out and although I understand some companies are busy, it unfortunately took us a week before someone could come out. Even trying to get a hold of them was a problem. When we finally got a hold of them, we were okay because they were very courteous and knowledgeable. But I don’t know if they’re not a big company. Unfortunately, they had to call back east to get a part and it took about a little over a week to get that done. They also issued the bill to American Shield and got it approved so they could purchase it, have it shipped and have it installed.

So it took approximately two weeks with that particular vendor to get us up and running again. I don't know if that’s average but being in the middle of the summer with kids, that was not good. In fact, the house was so hot that all the very expensive tropical fish in our big fish tank started dying. We had put bags of ice in the fish tank and we were trying everything to cool that down so that we wouldn’t lose more of the expensive fish. But unfortunately, we did lose quite a few of them.

The display on my AC unit thermostat was not there. I raised the ticket through the American Home Shield website and the service provider that was assigned came the next day. He went upstairs in the attic and apparently, it was not a major issue. The door of the unit was a bit open. He just pushed it inside and then, everything started working. From the perspective of scheduling and being on time, it was all good. Whenever I file a claim, the service providers are assigned immediately and if I file a claim through the website, it's even easier because I don't have to wait and call someone and explain the problem. The hassle is not there and given my experience, I would recommend AHS.

We had air conditioning problems that went on for about three months. AHS kept calling people out, but they couldn't fix it. They had two companies tell them that we needed to replace it and they won't spend that money but they finally replaced the outside unit. And then we went ahead and paid to get the other one, because we were just tired of dealing with it. They replaced one section and we replaced another because this unit was called an Infinity by Carrier and we talked to several experts. If you replaced one of them that isn't compatible with that, it will just keep breaking so we ended up having to go with not as good a system.

Most of the time I call AHS to file a claim. I've also done online. They've been really quick about getting somebody to call us and the other claims that we've had other than the air conditioner, we didn’t have any issues at all. They had to replace a hot water heater. They've done a lot this year and have been very helpful. The technicians have been good. We live in a weird place. It's kinda in between lost and found, so it's harder to get people out here. The only really bad thing I had was one person, a contractor on the air conditioner said, they'd be out here and we had to wait a week.

They were Carrier people, so they should have been good. And then the day of the deal, they call and go, "Oh, we don’t service that area." So, we went a week without AC. I had AHS years ago and they were terrible but they're actually much better than they were. I would tell others to take AHS. It has been worth it to us. They replaced a lot of stuff. We bought this house and it's just been one thing after another.

We had a dryer and an air conditioning issue. The line was blocked with our air conditioner so the condensation from the pipes were going and leaking through the furnace and to the basement floor. AHS sent a contractor and we've used this guy through them for 20 years so we trust him very much. He came out once and replaced something and tried to clean it out. But he did have to come out one more time and clean it out from the outside also and we haven't had a problem after that. The pump went out too. It had burned out after 16 years and he replaced that. Sometimes I go through online to file a claim. But I feel better about talking to an agent, especially when I want a certain contractor and most of the time it's Comfort Zone that I want. They're very dependable and they do all they can to try fix the problem. The AHS reps are also very nice and good.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for an air conditioning problem and then Controlled Comfort came out. I would typically call the AHS number that I have whenever I file a claim. In fact, I have three AHS numbers and it appears that one of them gets me through faster to a direct person. I hope that there'd be clarity on which number is the best because the number I had in my packet was not the same as the one that gave me quicker service. There were times where I had to wait and then I just hung up because it was just too long. Now I know the number because I verified that the number the air conditioning company was using was different than the one I had in my phone.

On that call, it was a weekend and we were in Vegas with no air conditioning. I had to call back three times to get someone to come because we're in Nevada and apparently, it's a different zone for getting help. That was a number of months ago and at the time, it was a bit frustrating that I couldn't get sooner response, but not everybody works on the weekend, so they ended up giving me a second vendor that called me back right away. But it was my persistence that made that happen.

The company that came out had a recall several times because something didn’t get connected right. And then just more recently, we didn’t have heat. So, we've had multiple visits and Controlled Comfort was nice and always accommodating. This just happened on Monday. They came out and fixed the problem. But then AHS called and said, "This is a different issue, so you have to pay your other $75." It was a bit protracted and I don't know if it's just our unit but I'm past the stage of getting pissed off. I just want them to fix it. I almost was ready to call and ask for a different vendor, but I didn’t want to pay another $75 because that would have been the case. But at the end, they fixed it. It appears to be working fine and every time I've called them, they came right out.

The geographical area we live in has different demands on home system and I think AHS has different problems here. When our water purification went out, I found out they have a separate policy. I didn’t see it listed and I said, "Maybe we've got it in our AHS policy." And when I called AHS, they said, "No, that's a separate policy." So, I just had to pay $1,700 for a new water purification because it was leaking, but it was very old, so I knew we needed one but that wasn’t explained. At the end of the day, they got the problem fixed. Also, they're dealing with a call center and there could always be hiccups.

We had a number of errors over the course of some of our work with American Home Shield. They contact the provider that they have contracted with, and they have them call us back within a very short period of time. However, they kept having different wrong numbers for us. I would get online, figure out which company it was, call the company and ask them if they were trying to reach us, and they would say, “Yes, we’ve called you three or four times. And we couldn’t reach you.”

Apparently, we have a number that doesn’t even sound remotely like any number that we have related to our family and we had a little bit of an issue with that. But the submission of the claim itself to AHS was easy. The technician that came out was very clear about what services were covered and which services were not. We also paid the $75, then AHS would pay afterward, which we also appreciated the clarity. The tech had to come back out, but it was resolved in the second visit.

However, we had a water heater before that was leaking all over our floor. We called AHS and they sent somebody out, but they didn’t like the bid that we put out there so then we had to start over again, over a $45 difference between his bid and the next guy’s bid. We felt like it would have been reasonable for AHS to just go, “Okay, These people want it done.” At the end of the day, they covered it and we didn’t have to pay for the repair.

It took us several days to get the tech out here. He had the wrong number and he kept calling and leaving messages to somebody who was the wrong person. When he finally came, he gave us a bid, he submitted it to the company, they didn’t like it, so we start with a new contractor, another day, another visit, another bid. We found the haggling to be something that perhaps is not in our best interest as customers and maybe in the best interest of the company in terms of bottom line. If AHS is there to serve us, and we’re not talking about a $300 difference or even a $100 difference, we really didn’t feel like $40 or $50 would add up. At times, it gets complicated but in the big picture, we found AHS to be worthwhile. Our home came with the home warranty and we were happy enough to continue.

When we bought the house, the first thing that went out was the fridge. AHS said that LG has to handle the compressor because the warranty is not out yet. I had to contact LG and it took me a while because they had one person available to fix the fridge. I had to contact the person and they wanted me to pay out of pocket. I talked to them because if I have an insurance company for something that is handling the situation, I don’t wanna be paying anything out of pocket as I already paid monthly payments over there.

AHS sent me a check and I paid from the check for that service with LG. But it wasn’t resolved until about a month. I did phone calls almost every day. There were a lot of people that were assigned to my case and they were pretty professional. However, the first tech that was sent out for the fridge wasn’t the right person and he didn't specifically answer all my questions. He just ran away and I had to chase him to ask something and in the end, the fridge was resolved.

Then a week down the road, the AC unit broke down. In the summertime in Arizona, it’s hard to have the AC unit off. The heat was over 100 degrees. I also had a couple people out for this case. The person that installed the unit went over it and said that it doesn’t seem like there is anything major. The units were fairly new. He gave me all the explanations to what can be in there. Then the contractor from American Home Shield came in after him. He started saying what was the issue, every next word from him was a lie. I know because the person from before explained everything to me. He even lied about the quantity of the Freon that needs to go inside. I called American Home Shield and said that I don’t wanna deal with him because I don’t like the way he communicates. I also don't like the way he wants to do his job, which was incompetent. Then a second person came out, looked professional and seemed like he fixed the problem.

But then, about a couple weeks down, the AC is still not cooling the house, so I called them again. Other than that, the AHS rep that was assigned to me was awesome. She was assigned to my first case, then I had a different person that was assigned to my second case with the AC unit. But that person just could not handle that situation, so all of a sudden, the other girl came out again. When she appears, everything gets settled.

They fixed the problem when they finally got it together. But we were without air for about two weeks during the summer so it was pretty hot.

Our pool is also covered under American Home Shield, and whenever we have something done with the pool, they do not send a swimming pool company to take care of it. They send out a plumbing company who knows nothing about swimming pools. We'd rather have someone that's more knowledgeable about swimming pools. When the stove in my rental gave out, I filed a claim online. The website was pretty user-friendly and I was cool with that. After that, the contractor called and gave me a time. The window was big. It was like 1:00 to 4:00. But I always explain to the contractor that I work and I ask if they can call me when they’re headed there then I can leave and drive. And I never have a problem. Surfside Appliance did that. They worked with me so I wouldn’t be sitting for hours. They were also polite and knowledgeable when they talked to me.

The technician explained everything and gave me options. But since it was an older stove, they said that it’d be cheaper to get it replaced than to actually fix it. The plumber we called diagnosed our problem and ultimately decided that we'd need an entirely new hot water heater. My husband decided to call our home warranty company, American Home Shield, to get the heater replaced. He informed the service representative that he spoke with of our diagnosis, and we were told that they could not replace the heater until they looked at it on their own. That made sense to us, but we were also told that we would have to pay the service fee twice. The plumber came to inspect the heater and ultimately deemed that the hot water heater did need to be replaced, after all. However, he never submitted out job, leaving my husband and I with over a week wait to even get scheduled for another appointment.

We were finally about to schedule for another appointment for today, November 13, however, the service department failed to mention that the service tech who was handling our job was out sick. This is actually the third day that my husband has had to stay home waiting for this incompetent company to service our hot water heater. I called AHS and was told that I needed to contact the repair company directly. I immediately contacted them. They told me they had contacted AHS but the part was not ordered. I was told the service company tried to call me, left several messages, and I didn't return their call. That was a blatant lie because I never had voicemail set up on my phone, and never missed a call from any unknown numbers. When I mentioned this to AHS I was told they would contact the repair company to have them order my part. Someone was to call soon to schedule my repair.

Let's fast forward yet again to another month later (last week). Now I'm told the part is on "backorder" and they aren't sure they even make replacement parts for my fridge any longer. After waiting over 2 months for the part to come in, I'm now told that it will be in on November 30th then they will call to make arrangements to install it. If I didn't want to wait 3 more weeks, they would be more than happy to give me $200 for replacement of my refrigerator. I've waited this long so I will wait until November 30th to see if I actually hear back from anyone about this mystery part that my refrigerator needs.

If it doesn't come in they are seriously offering about 8 percent of what I purchased my refrigerator for. If I would have known this from the beginning, I wouldn't have purchased this warranty. Who can buy a $2500 refrigerator for $200? Keep your money!! They don't care about the customer, they only care about the money they get. Used to be a great company, now it seems to be just as much of a scam as the others out there.

When our Gas Furnace stopped working last week I immediately contacted AHS and they scheduled an appointment with a company located in Snohomish, Wa some 60 miles away from where we live. It also would involve a round trip time-consuming ferry ride. When we had not heard back from them, I called them on Monday morning and was informed that they were not able to schedule a repair as it would require their technician to spend a half day on the job. Further that they had repeatedly told AHS that they would not handle repairs outside of their service area.

Considering that my wife and I are octogenarians and had spent the weekend freezing inside our very cold house I was very distressed when I called AHS repeatedly and was given different versions of how AHS would the issue: AHS “technical team” would expand the search area to find a repair facility. I would hear back within 24 hours with a phone call. I should find a licensed repair company of my choice and I would get reimbursed. When I asked HOW I would get paid, the response was I would get an email within - you guessed it - 24 hours. At this point I requested to speak with a supervisor and was then told by the rep that she would now send the email right away. Nothing arrived in my email inbox (yes, I checked the Spam folder). I think this is outrageous and I doubt that AHS will ever reimburse me.

My daughter had two calls to American Home Shield to submit the claims and their reps responded very accurately. When our hot water heater did not have enough electrical power for the unit that was in there, we traded it out for a regular water heater. The contractors who did it were great. However, the furnace person was horrible and the repair was disappointing because when the contractor came, looked and turned on the furnace to lit the gas as it was a propane, my daughter immediately ran out and said that it was not right and it had to be turned off. We were told that the furnace just needs to be cleaned. He did not think it was dangerous. We had a couple other furnace people look at it but we hired a second person on our own and did not put a claim after.

The second person said that it was dangerous and the electrical was feeding and that the furnace needed to be upgraded. So, the electrical that I had them put in and inspected was not enough to do the furnace and the hot water heater. The electrical company that came out was wonderful. Now, we have a new furnace and air conditioner that should be okay with the warranty. Everything is great at this point. American Home Shield responded quickly but it was the vendor that was not responsive. I am glad we have the insurance and I have recommended them. We got a good response and it alerted us to make sure that everything is on track. If we didn't have the insurance, we may have let it slide to a point that it became an emergency instead of getting it done when we should have.
