The upstairs bathroom was leaking and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield on their website. It took three days to get the first contractor out and then, he refused to work. He wasn't interested in fixing it and so, he said that it was a lot bigger job than it actually was compared to what the other plumbers have said. AHS got me on schedule with a different contractor and it took a week to get him out. It was an aggravating experience with American Home Shield. The contractors did not like the repair and they outright refused the claim even though there was no avoiding it. They said that for them it qualified as a modification, so they were not obligated to cover the repair. So, I ended up getting a different plumber out there and just pay them out of pocket. It was the worst claim experience by far.

I had another claim on a refrigerator ice maker. The contractor came out the first time and told me that I had the freezer keycode. Then, he left and didn't solve the problem. I had to send him back out to make a repair. Generally, the contractors that American Home Shield sends out are sub-par. I've had other companies that have home warranties. In every house I bought that had American Home Shield, it has not been worth it. I had a warranty on my previous home and they never denied any claims. They were also easier to deal with. Getting into a new home, a home warranty is important. We always added it on all our contract negotiations. However, I won’t be using AHS again. Also, I will not call American Home Shield again even though I still got about six months left on my contract and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

My gas heater was working intermittently. Sometimes it was blowing cold air and sometimes it wasn't coming on. Then, it would work one day but did not work at night. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield late Saturday and I wanted somebody to be there at the time when I wasn't working, which was Monday. I thought somebody would show up on Monday but they were booked and nobody showed up. The first thing I did in the morning that Monday was to call American Home Shield and I was on the phone over two hours. I never had a chance to talk to anybody. They put on the music then forgot about me. It was horrible. But when I file a claim with American Home Shield on the computer, I just put the information and it would be great.

The techs from American Technology finally showed up late Tuesday but when they checked, the gas heater was working. So they told me to call them again when the problem happens. When it happened again. I called and they came. They said it could be the thermostat, so they changed it. Then it happened again. So the guy came and he was on the roof for a while in the dark and the cold. He noticed that something wasn't shutting and he told me he had changed it and put a universal part. He fixed it and hopefully that took care of the problem. The technicians were very nice although I felt bad for the last person that came. The heater wasn't working and he came late. It was dark already outside.

The contractor that came out identified the problem with my downstairs furnace and solved the issue. They were very good and courteous as well as careful, considerate, and prompt. Their quality of work was good and I’m happy about how everything happened. Also, the Home Shield rep I spoke with was very good. They were helpful, to the point and expeditious in getting someone to help me, and I appreciated all of that.

We needed to do some renovation work, and the guys that looked at the heating plate under my home figured that a pipe was cracked. They said I needed to get it fixed, and since I didn’t know one way or the other, I called American Home Shield. I was very pleased with the person that came out. He was very thorough, and after he checked, it turned out there was nothing wrong. It was just the outer coating of the pipe that had a couple of cracks. I still got charged a fee though, so I was disappointed by that. Another thing is that it takes a long time to get through to AHS. That’s not good when it comes to trying to get something done and being nervous about it. But I discovered if you call them at about 5:00 in the morning, you might get lucky.

AHS also sent us an electrician who fixed my plug a day before the holiday. It didn’t work on Thanksgiving Day, so the guy came out again a couple of days later, and the plug worked. The last contractor that came out for when the HVAC was broken was so thorough, patient and he explained things. He was great and he seemed so young.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for three years and I have called them five times. Right after the phone call, not even by the end of the day, since I always call in the morning, I would get a call from whoever is gonna be coming out. It was excellent and great. The contractors came early. They let me know when they were on their way and they got here quickly. They were very knowledgeable and answered questions. As they were fixing, I was wondering how and why the things happened. They were quick to let me know and nice about that. I haven’t had any problems. We renewed every year, so we had no complaints.

We had a recent claim for the toilet. The guy who came out was courteous and he fixed it. Before that was my mother's washing machine, which they replaced because they couldn’t fix it or was too much to fix. It was nice and I have no complaints. My mother was satisfied and so was I because I’m not a plumber. It was very helpful. People should get AHS. It’s fantastic especially if you’re not a handy person. They come out, you pay the service call which is $75 and you don’t have to pay for parts, labor and time.

My shower was all backed up so I filed a claim with AHS and it took about three days for the contractor to come out. He was really good. He went through the whole process and told me what he might find and what he might not find. What the issue could be and what it couldn’t be. He also made a complete, humongous mess all over my house, but before he left, he cleaned it up. Everything has been operating really well since then. Having the AHS is valuable. They cover everything and I don’t have to worry about anything. I’ve referred neighbors to AHS.

The problem with American Home Shield is that it seems like sometimes they don't give the consumer all the information that they need. With my pool, I have three pumps. When I got my insurance, I had everything insured, including all the pumps. Most recently, they were telling me that my water feature pump is not covered. I said to them, "If it's not covered, why didn't you guys mention that to me when it was time to renew?" They don't do that. It's an omission thing with them where they may know something and don't wanna tell you what you can and cannot do, and that got me upset. They need to have people on the line who can tell me, "You don't have this piece insured. Maybe you wanna get it done." And then I can make a decision if I wanna pay the extra money or not. They need to be a little more assertive in taking care of their customer.

We recently called them to make a claim for my exterior pool pump, and the submission process was not that difficult. The first people that came out didn't do a good job 'cause they were trying to blame me for causing the problem. AHS sent out a new pool guy from Platinum Pool that did an excellent job. The performance has been good since the repair. I have them on other properties too.

There was something wrong with our hot water heater and normally, if a person doesn’t get out right away, I call back American Home Shield and get another provider. So, I’ve never had a problem. A rep came from Ray’s Plumbing and he fixed it. However, I had a problem with one contractor in New Orleans on the very first claim I made. The guy walked through the house and said he didn’t have any of the things he needs. He left. I called AHS immediately and they tried to charge $75. They kept resolving it, but then I kept getting a bill. I called the owner of that company and the guy quit work that same day. I’ve had the policy on some of my existing houses for over 10 years. I like AHS and I like to keep them. People think I’m crazy and then, when they have a big problem, I’m like, “Hey, you should've kept that home warranty.”

My washing machine was rattling and making a bunch of noise and I thought it was just that the load was unbalanced. I tried to fix that several times but couldn’t, so I thought of getting some help from American Home Shield. The tech that was sent out to take care of it was fabulous. It turned out that my load was unbalanced and the tech gave me some tips on how to avoid that and why it was unbalanced this time. He was wonderful and I would use the contractor again.

I submitted my claim via the web and it was much faster than trying to reach the customer service representative by phone. I’ve had frustrations in the past being put on hold for a very long time but this time, I thought of using the computer to see how quick American Home Shield's response is and it's within 10 minutes, which is unheard of when I'm on the phone. I mentioned to the person who contacted me that I was thrilled with that response time and that it was much easier. I’ll not try calling again and use the computer instead. I had no water pressure coming out and the contractor that AHS sent came right out the very next morning and was very efficient. They said there was a bad spigot diverter that they found so they adjusted the water pressure and fixed the problem. Everything is working great now.

I was trying to use the garbage disposal on Thanksgiving night. It had an automatic thing and had turned itself off. The water was also backing up into the dishwasher and was leaking so I made a request to American Home Shield online for technicians to come and check it out. I was told the name of the plumbing company and when they would be at. Then, the plumbing company called and made an appointment.

There were two gentlemen who came and they were nice and professional. They asked me the problem and told me that they would take care of everything. When they left, the garbage disposal was fixed which also took care of the problem with the dishwasher. Everything went very well. There's no more water backing up in the dishwasher and the garbage disposal is working fine. Overall, having AHS and not having to worry is worth the money. I would recommend American Home Shield. Keep up the good work!

We recently contacted AHS as we were left with no hot water as Water Heater needed to be replaced. After contacting AHS, they stated we needed to pay the $100 to have tech out or pay later. After tech reviewed that a new water heater was needed, AHS contacted me stating we had to pay out of pocket an additional $695.00!!! What? What is the need of home warranty if it's going to cost us homeowners ALL THIS money when something unexpected happens?

I contacted AHS again and rep stated that according to our contract under article 14, whatever, that they do not cover earthquake straps for $90, permit for $180, etc. Unreal! I did further research and found out earthquake straps cost $20 at Lowe's and permit $60. So who is being honest? Read the fine print before getting this home warranty and make sure to put extra money aside because they DO NOT COVER EVERYTHING!!!

    Original Review: Dec. 5, 2018

On the 12th of November we put in for a service call for our washing machine. Response time was fine and a service tech came out in the 13th and we were quickly told and sent an email that AHS had agreed to replace the machine. On the 14th we went to Lowe’s and purchased a new washer. I sent the receipt by email to the designated email address immediately after the purchase. On the 23rd I spoke with a representative to confirm that AHS had received the email receipt, and was told they had and that it was in process.

The recording for the reimbursement line tells you 10-14 days to process reimbursement checks. On the 3rd of December I contacted AHS again, and after being on hold for over an hour, spoke with another representative who told me that they were so overwhelmed with reimbursements that it was going to take another 21 days, maybe more before our check was processed. At this point I asked to speak with a manager and was told one would contact me. No contact by anyone for the rest of the day on the 3rd and no contact by anyone as of 6 p.m. yesterday evening. I called again last night, again was on hold for a 1/2 hour and was told by another representative that they would put an email in for a manager to contact me.

This is ridiculous! We have Christmas coming up and almost $900 that is being held up on our credit card because we have not received reimbursement. Our payments to AHS come out every month and the $100 for the service calls come out immediately. There is no excuse for why we don’t have our reimbursement check in hand already! One highly irritated consumer!

The gas furnace wasn’t working. Once it got below the temperature needs, the heat of the furnace was not kicking on. I filed my claim to AHS through the internet and navigating through it was a simple process. It took about three days for the contractors to be out and they were cordial. I know the theory of having a home warranty compared to calling a service directly. I know that the warranty is gonna be pushing to fix the problem instead of replacing the part. What happened was the tech came out and he fixed the issue. Then before he left, I wanted to make sure if there is a part that needed to be replaced as I know sometimes it takes time to get parts or he's just fixing it because he has to. I have two young children in the house, it’s winter, and it’s my furnace.

The tech just said the part was fixed but then the next day, it stopped working again. I put in a recall and then it took three additional days for the contractor to come back out, so I had no heat for three days, which was frustrating. But I understand sometimes things happen. My issue was as soon as he came back, he was like, “All right, I have to order this part now.” The same part that I asked about three days earlier. When I asked why he couldn’t just order the part when he solved the problem three days earlier, he said that when you go through the home warranty, you run this risk of having this problem. If you call the place directly, it gets fixed quickly. And now, the part might take five to seven days to come in.

I called American Home Shield the next day because the contractor said he was restricted with the vendors he can use with different parts because of American Home Shield, and that’s just the way it is. I asked if the part could be expedited since it’s December, I don’t have heat, and I have two kids in the house. I also told American Home Shield, “I don't care if my dishwasher goes out. I can wash dishes with my hand. I don’t care if my microwave goes out. I can cook my food on my stove. The reason why I have a home warranty is so when my heat goes out in December, I don't have a problem.” My issue was I had no heat for seven days over two calls, and I was basically told, “That’s just the way it is,” by American Home Shield and by the contractor.

I wasn’t fully satisfied with how my claim was handled and the answers I got. I’m not positive I’m gonna continue with American Home Shield based off this scenario. The one thing I wanted the warranty for is with this exact problem, and I would rather just call a service and get somebody out to replace the part and pay the extra money.

This is the second time I’ve used the warranty. One time, my refrigerator went out and I had to wait around 10 days to get someone to come and replace my refrigerator part. I had another refrigerator in the garage, so it wasn’t a big deal. But I’m not seeing the benefits of having the home warranty when it seems like there’s not a premium put on an American Home Shield customer compared to somebody that just calls the service to get it done. I have money and I’m not someone who struggles with a paycheck. The thing that I don’t want to happen, happened twice, and I’m not overly thrilled. Investigate before purchasing a warranty because it is a very nice present, but sometimes when you open the box it’s not what you expected.

We thought that something was wrong with the heater but we weren't sure, so we called American Home Shield to get it checked. It took close to an hour to get through to make the call to talk to somebody. We kept calling and we would get put on hold. It was terrible. I had two phones and a computer turned on trying to get through to them. When I finally got to them, I told them what I wanted and they set me up for a contractor to come out and check our heater. The rep told us the contractor would be here at 12 o’clock but at 1 o’clock, nobody has shown up and no one has called us. We were just sitting here waiting.

I called the people at the repair place that was gonna do the work and I didn’t have any problem reaching them. They said that their guy was running late, but he should be here pretty soon. They also said that they didn't know why they would even come to our house because they couldn't do what American Home Shield called them for, and we needed somebody else. So I told them to just cancel the service and then I called American Home Shield again. I waited again until I finally reached somebody and then I changed my claim to just an inspection call.

American Home Shield, however, billed me for the service call that the contractor did not make even though they’ve told American Home Shield that the appointment was called off. I've been billed for the inspection call but now I'm waiting to try to get my money back from the first service call. I asked to speak with a supervisor several times but I could not get one. After all the phone calls I've made to American Home Shield to resolve the issue, they finally told me they could credit it. But although it just took them 24 hours to lock in my account, it's gonna be 14 to 21 days before I get a check back. And if I'm not happy with that, they said I should get in touch with their retention department, which I did.

The lady at retention pulled up my record and since it was a debit card, it's three to five days. But it has been three days so far and the credit hasn’t happened yet. American Home Shield debited my account the very day that the call was made when they shouldn’t have taken the payment out until 48 hours after the work was done. So American Home Shield doesn't do anything that they tell you they're gonna do and I still don’t have my $107 back which they said they would send to me. My wife and I are retired and we live on a fixed income, so $107 to us is a lot of money.

I've had American Home Shield for almost four years and I've been in this type of business all my life. If I treated people like I was treated by American Home Shield, there wouldn’t be any business later. It was a horrible experience with American Home Shield and I'm going to cancel the contract. They're the worst company I have ever dealt with and I'm looking for another warranty company right now.

I had a leak in the downstairs bathroom shower. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they sent out a plumber. The plumber discovered that it was below my shower and that the seal in my shower drain was not sealed down underneath. So the plumber sealed it then he went down and tore out some of that sealing down there to make sure the leak had stopped. Then, AHS sent another group to come and patch the sealing. They did a great job of puttying it and I was very pleased with the whole thing.

However, when I was dealing with things last year, I was waiting 45 minutes on the phone every time I called. And once I got somebody, if I had to be transferred to another place, which I did several times just because we were further along in the process, I didn’t have to wait quite as long but it was another 20 minutes. That was a little bit frustrating. This last time, I called for a new claim and the waiting wasn’t quite that long. It was only about 20 or 25 minutes. So I went online and put in another call for something. But these were follow ups where I had to check on things and they were more complicated. On the complicated one, what had been told to me by somebody else wasn’t put in the record of that particular thing so I had to do it all over again. But everything worked out.

I had an issue with my fridge. I called American Home Shield and they sent Sears out to my house. However, the techs didn’t do it right, they didn’t fix it. So, over the course, from September until last week, Sears was at my home around nine times. They sent different technicians and everybody had a different issue. One guy walked in my house and said, “It’s this,” and went outside and got a steam tool and steamed out the back of the refrigerator. The next guy came and it was something else. Another guy came and it also was something else. One guy also said that he needed to order me some parts, and he did. The parts came, but they were the wrong parts, and it was another week.

I was on the phone with them a whole bunch of times and everybody was trying to help me. I also spoke with an escalation lady who told me to buy a refrigerator, but there was some confusion there. I understood that she was gonna give me the $100 back for the deductible and an additional $100 to provide the refrigerator, however, the truth of the matter was she was just gonna give me the $100 or refund me the 100 bucks. My wife and I had taken time off work and we had thrown food out. I called American Home Shield and asked if the throwing of the food out was covered. The rep said no and it was okay. I should have read the fine print.

After the eighth or ninth time that the techs came out, I called again and said that we were still having the same problem. I asked if they could send a different company. They sent out AHA or American Home Appliance and they were great. The tech came to my house and looked at everything, and he said what the problem was or what was wrong. He said what we needed to do to fix it and I said okay. He ordered the parts and the parts came. We called them and they came out to the house and fixed the fridge. We did everything that he asked us to do, like defrosting. We had no fridge for two days at all and the fridge was defrosted, which was really crappy. But their guy came out and fixed it.

Sears supervisors are useless. I tried talking to them and I asked them why they kept sending people they knew that were not pioneered with their company for a major issue. The whole Sears thing was an issue for me, but everything got straightened out with American Home Appliance. I knew that Sears was gonna be crap and I told AHS to get somebody else because Sears doesn’t know what they are doing. Originally, I was with Sears as a home warranty company, but they did not come to my house when we called them, they send out AHA. I left Sears because the technician who came back to my house told me to switch to American Home Shield and said that AHS is a better company.

AHS customer service was good and they tried to work with me every single time. The last woman I spoke with was the best, although at that point, I was beyond frustrated and I was gonna cancel with them. But AHS was great and I had no issues with them. I recommended American Home Shield and my buddy signed up with them a couple of months ago.

But one of the contractors for the plumbing was ready to come the very next day. I wasn’t ready because I had surgery that day but nonetheless, when I put the claims in on a Wednesday, all the work for the plumbing was taken care of the following Monday. The contractors that showed up were also great.

I'm going to renew my term with American Home Shield. When I had an AC failure, they had a very user-friendly site when I filed my claim. I had no problem with their site but maybe AHS could include on there an update on the status of the person who is supposed to come out to do the fix. Other than that, the contractor who came was very friendly and knowledgeable. This was the second time I had seen the contractor and it was very easy doing an interaction. A part had to be ordered so he had to come back. It was within 24 hours, though. Now, the AC is going fine and I've had no issues with it since.

We have a microwave and an oven combination unit and I had an issue with each one. With the oven bottom part, there was like a glue that was dripping between the glass. So it was something I didn't feel comfortable taking apart. And the other was with the microwave. When I turn it on, it would make a loud rumble noise. I filed a claim to American Home Shield online. They have a simple website wherein I'd just put in the information and American Home Shield would text me back right away. And then somebody would call me in a short period of time. The only time I had to speak with a claims agent was when we had a problem with the air conditioning unit. We were going back and forth about what was covered and what was not. The same thing happened with our pool heater but that was resolved.

The technicians for the oven part came, took apart the glass and cleaned it. Then for the microwave, it turned out to be a bad motor. So they ordered the part and when that came in, they installed it and everything's running fine since then. When we lived in Florida, we tried a couple other home warranties and they were terrible. So when I get something fixed, I recommend American Home Shield to others.

The tool that American Home Shield has is really nice because if you're somebody like me who sits at a computer all day and couldn't be on the phone during regular work hours, it would only take about three minutes to submit a claim. Recently, I had two claims. One was because I didn’t have water or heat for four days. I also had a plumber about a month ago that did some work. He did fine, but he didn’t check all of the parts of the drain assembly before he said he was done. The next morning, I woke up and the area underneath the kitchen sink was soaking wet in the floor. So I called American Home Shield first and they let the plumber know. Then, the contractor sent out a guy from their shop and got it fixed. Nevertheless, my experience was still good. They contractors have been great and professional, and they've always told me what was going on.

I've told several people about the warranty that I bought 'cause you gotta be careful with insurance. I worked in that industry so there's a lot of rip-off companies out there that put fine print that don’t really align to take much off of the claim or even really make one. But so far, everything that I've ever had to report, has been covered. It's been the real deal. I pay my co-pay or deductible and the service person shows up and does the work. And so far, I haven't seen any extra bills for any parts that they've used. Like when they put a circuit board in the furnace which usually runs anywhere from 100 to 200 bucks, if not more.

We still have one claim going on, though. Somebody came out to repair our washing machine but couldn't, and said it was dead. AHS gave us a credit for the purchase of a new machine, which we selected one, and this got going 30 days ago. When the guys came to deliver the unit, they said the cold water valve in the wall was inoperable and that their company policy is to shut off the water, install the machine and turn it back on.

The washing machine was back out here but the valve had to be replaced. We called another contractor, AMP Plumbing, and they were very good guys. The contractor came out and looked at the valve. Then he scheduled another time to come out and fix it, which he did. He had to cut some drywall away, however, so we’ve been waiting to hear from the drywall people who were supposed to come back to do the six inch patch about a week ago. All the contractors that have come to us have been through American Home Shield and things have been handled appropriately.

My current/old hot water heater was installed in 2006 and last weekend it died. American Home Shield sent a plumber out to assess the job. Later, American Home Shield told me I would need to pay $893 to the plumber out of my pocket - plus the $100 deductible to American Home Shield. The $893 was for a list of "extra stuff" that the plumber says I need, but I don't want. There was no way I was doing that.

So I called American Home Shield and asked about the "cash out" option where they give me the money and I can hire my own plumber. They would only give me $393. What? The cheapest hot water heaters at the local big box store cost $400 and up. Plus the fittings and hoses, plus labor. NOWHERE can I get a whole new hot water heater professionally installed for anywhere close to $393. And I believe that American Home Shield knows that. (They are just playing a game with my money).

So "Plan C" was that I would do it myself. I bought the hot water heater and all the supplies, installed it and it works great. My out of pocket cost was about $450 (my labor was free). I called American Home Shield to have them send me the $393 and they won't send it. They said I need to send them proof that the work was done 100% by a licensed plumber. So once again, I am hosed. AND they charged me the $100 for the plumber to come out and take a look, even though American Home Shield is not paying out a dime on my claim! Here is the bottom line: They make you pay a WHOLE LOT more out of pocket than what you sign up for - or they just don't pay you at all! #AHSRIPOFF

I purchased this home warranty and then 2 months into it needed to use it. I filled out service request and was matched with repair person that was an hour away. When I attempted to contact repair person they didn’t answer and their voicemail full. I called back AHS and waited 46 minutes on hold. They contacted repair person who finally called. He decided my repair was not urgent (my laundry room flooded from a stopped drain) but informed me if I wanted to make it urgent I needed to pay him more money. I call AHS again, waited an hour and a half this time on hold to be talked into keeping my contract and they would change service request to an emergency.

The next day no contact at all with service person. I end up calling my own plumber, paying out of pocket for repair then replacing two appliances due to water damage. I call AHS again today to cancel this warranty as it has so far been a waste of time and money and am belittled because I refuse to listen to them try to keep me by dangling a possible reimbursement in front of me. I inform them if reimbursement requires me to keep this policy then I have no desire to listen. I am then informed because I refuse to listen I have to pay an additional $45 to cancel.

You people already cost me water damage, money, stress and appliances and you want me to pay you more money to cancel a warranty that isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on? Then have the nerve to belittle me because I refuse to listen to you. Offer me reimbursement if I continue policy? You actually say if I want money I should listen. Come on! My response was if it requires me to keep this contract then absolutely no I do not want to listen, I do not want reimbursement I just want to cut my losses and cancel. But now you have to squeeze yet another $45 out of me. No I want this canceled. Period. I don’t want to pay yet more money out of pocket to you when you failed to live up to your claims. I don’t think I should be stuck paying for a useless warranty or pay to cancel when this warranty so clearly failed to live up to its own claims.

Code Upgrades Installation & Modifications (including parts & labor): 1. Install expansion tank. 2. Install gas drip leg, gas valve and gas flex. 3. Install ground wire/bonding. 4. Install water heater pan. 5. Modify vent pipe. 6. Modify hot and cold water supply lines. 7. Modify temperature and pressure line. Dispose old water heater (covered). Total non-covered cost to be paid by customer: $ 970.00.

I called their office and someone named Alex picked up the phone. l requested for the price of each item stated above as this was not provided to me in their earlier email. My wife also asked him if the upgrade he listed above was needed and if any kind of permit will be needed. Alex was so rude. He was angry and told us that "this is what you have to pay". He repeated this twice and then hung up. I called him right back with the same question. He said the upgrade was necessary and once again he hung up. All this happened on Wednesday 11/28/2018 and up till now the contractors have not called me. I have also been told that AHS has delivered the water heater tank replacement to the contractor but he has neither called or replaced by water heater. I have been without hot water for days.

I complained to AHS and informed them that I will like to have another contractor but I was told I have to pay another inspection fee and also pay the restocking fees for the heater tank that had already been delivered to the contractor. I spoke with a Marie with employee #: ** who also stated that I have no choice and that I have to work with the contractor. Marie then transferred me to her supervisor Ruth [employee ID #:**] who repeated the same thing. I told them I was at this point not ready to have the contractor come to my house as I had totally lost confidence in him. This is also for the protection of my family. I no longer trust his work. It is noteworthy also to state that I called in a second opinion and it was this new company who told me the water heater tank platform had to be changed due to severe damage and that if a new tank had been mounted on the old platform, the platform will give way and the water heater tank will collapse.

I was also advised that the AHS contractor should have drained the water heater tank to stop water leaking from the tank and flooding the garage. All he needed was water hose. The AHS contractor had earlier on turned off the water heater to stop the leakage but failed to drain the tank and so the leak had persisted. It has now been over a week that my family and I have been without hot water in the house. This is working untold hardship on us. I have attempted to call AHS again but one has to be on the phone for about an hour to get a hold of a representative.

I called in a few claims recently to American Home Shield, one for my dishwasher and the most recent one for my thermostat that wasn't working properly. I submitted the claims on the computer and I haven't had any problem navigating through their website, but the website's user-friendliness can be a little more specific. For example, the thermostat was not working on the air conditioner heater, and all it had was heat and air.

In terms of the timeframe on getting a contractor out, it's been slow. A lot of times, I have to call them instead of the contractor calling me to make an appointment. But the contractors have all been great. They're very friendly, helpful and they give me a solution to the problem. Now everything's working great. Having this warranty is very valuable because if there's an issue with something at home, it's a lot easier to call the warranty company and more economical than having to hire different repair people to come out. It's convenient and it saves me money.

We've been using American Home Shield for 15 years now and they are very thorough and responsive. Whenever we submit a claim to them, we either just call up a number or go online and they make it very simple. Each service call that we have through them is $100, no matter what the other cost is. Their contractors were very informative and good at what they were doing. The servicemen were always very knowledgeable.

When our furnace refused to come back on, the guy said there was nothing else they could do so they had to replace it. They put a whole new furnace in and I love it very much. Then a couple of years ago, the air conditioner went out, and AHS had to come in. At that time, it was $75 for a service call. They found out that they had to evacuate the whole system and replace it. The guy showed me the bill and it was $465, but I only had to pay $75. I pay 39 every month but it’s still a peace of mind because they come back out within a day to correct anything that's wrong.

We had a water heater that seemed to be leaking. It turned out to be the pipe into the water heater but it was spraying, so it was gonna get down inside the water tank. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online, and their site was easy to use. Their rep texted me right away with the name of the plumber including the phone number. The contractor was very helpful. He called me back within an hour, asked for some model number and information, then called me back and set up a time. It got a little complicated because there were some warranty issues, but he worked it out. American Home Shield always come through and I recommend them. There were a few times when it wasn’t something they cover, but basically, it’s been great.

I was in contact with American Home Shield regarding the charges and waiting online with them has been forever. Furthermore, you can’t get anybody on the phone. I was on hold for 20 to 45 minutes and then I get somebody that’s stupid. They’re not really sure what I’m talking about. They don’t speak good English because they’re probably in Hong Kong or the Philippines. They know nothing but what’s on their check-out sheet.

The techs who came here were alright but they seem to wanna come in, get out of there, and run onto the next guy. If the first technician would’ve looked at it a little bit further, he would’ve found one of the problems that the last one found. There has been multiple problems, and each problem was helping to make the problem worse. The last problem was there was a seal that wasn’t sealing right, and was replaced with another item. The plumbing issue took about six weeks to get fixed.

American Home Shield’s claim submission works, but it's not the greatest thing. After submitting the claim, you don’t get any updates as to when the service would be provided or any notes of service. They don’t give you any notes as to what was done and what the next steps are. I’m having issues with one of the dampers upstairs, and the contractor that came was very professional, on time, and met all my expectations. He evaluated it and said the damper needed to be replaced, but apparently, it is not covered by AHS. I thought for sure that all my systems were covered, and I’m a little disappointed because it’s part of the heating system and it seems like it would be covered, but it isn't.

The claims experience with AHS is hit and miss, though some of it is not their fault. They don't do a good job of following up and repairing things in a timely manner. I have to be the middleman and handle the management piece of that in terms of contacting AHS as well as the vendor to try to get somebody to come out and get a resolution, which I don’t appreciate. They’re using my time and I feel that AHS should be doing a better job of following up with these claims and facilitating the management to make sure things would be done in a timely manner. They don’t seem to be very engaged.

I was hearing a noise from one of my heat pumps. I had problems before and it turned out to be a compressor. It started to get a little cold down here in my neck of the woods and I was concerned that I’d be losing a compressor on one of my larger heat pumps before the winter started. I gave AHS a call and filed a service request. It was a very expeditious process. I said that I had a heat pump problem, they said okay and sent me a note on the same webpage that said someone would get back to me within 24 hours. Within 30 minutes, I had a call from Myers Comfort Specialists, the local vendor here, and set up an appointment for the next day. They came out and took care of me.

I’ve been using Myers Comfort Specialists for a couple of years. I have them come out in the spring and in the fall to do a tune up on some of my systems. They’re the ones that have done the maintenance for American Home Shield so far. They have been very reliable and responsive to me. Once they've fixed something, they've fixed it. I never get a second problem in the same way. The tech came out and ran the heat pump through the phases. My heat pumps are about 20 years old, but they’ve been well maintained over the years and they’re functioning properly. He found that the main contactor was severely pitted. It could have been shattering which might have been interrupting the power supply to the compressor itself. I’m an old electrician so I took a look at the points on this thing and he was right. It was pretty bad. He changed that out for me while he was there, and I haven’t had a problem with it since.

American Home Shield only covers about $10 per pound for Freon, but Freon goes for about $100 per pound. If you have a 10-pound system and it leaks, you’re on the hook for a big chunk of money. The little things you probably wouldn’t think about could come up and bite you. But the warranty has been good for the service and for the parts. I've had a pretty good experience with AHS and I’d recommend them.

I've had American Home Shield for seven years. I rented for a long time and most of my landlords had AHS and it seemed to work okay for them at any time we had a problem. So I stayed with them. When I submit a claim, I do it online and within a short period of time, I get a response. Usually, on the same day, the company calls and sets up an appointment.

The techs whom I worked with have been very courteous and understanding. They know what the problem is and if they have some options, they lay them out for me. The thing though is that AHS doesn't seem to use more local companies 'cause I live in Coachella Valley and sometimes, people come from Riverside, which is over an hour away. There are times you needed somebody out here right away, and they send somebody from an hour and a half away.

I actually had a problem a long time ago, when one time our air conditioning was out in the middle of the summer and I had to convince the person on the phone that it was an emergency. They said they’ll get somebody here in a couple of days. I told them to come right then. Other than that, I had an issue with my garage door opener. A guy came in and rewired and fixed things. However, I had a problem with it again two years later and the tech said he wasn’t gonna fix it because somebody had already redone something, and it was wrong. I don’t understand what the hell it was all about, but he ended up fixing it anyway.

Recently, my washing machine was going out and it's basically a computer issue with the machine. It just had to be reset. The problem had been going on for almost a year but then it started getting worse, so I just figured I better call it in. The techs who came knew exactly what the problem was. I told them that it was flashing a code on the face on the machine and they said I needed the panel pulled out, and everything will reset. It took them 20 minutes, tops. Since most of the time, they have the parts with them, they didn't have to order parts to fix the washing machine. So far, I'm happy with the quality of the repairs done by the techs sent out. They are always knowledgeable and quick with their job. Everything's done on time. As for AHS, it has paid off for me. I would recommend them.

Then he had to call American Home Shield to get permission and to make sure it was covered, which took a while. He come back in after an hour and said it was covered.

He looked at the problem and gave me possible solutions to it. He had a faucet he could put in or he could go back to his place and get something else. He came back with another guy and showed me the faucet that he had, which wasn’t exactly what I had. I wanted a gooseneck one, but he said that in order to do that, it would have to be special ordered and it could take four weeks. With the leak under the sink, I needed to do something right away. There was an issue with my heater and it’s an old system so that happens every time. I get a flood and it’s muddy. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and the website was user-friendly. It’s also much easier than waiting on hold on the phone because they’re so busy. Plus when I put this claim in, the contractor contacted me the very next day and the service was scheduled within a couple days. So I was really happy with that service. The technician who came was also very professional. He asked some questions then he went to work and he worked very efficiently. He did a great job. However, he just fixed the heater. Unfortunately, the heater is associated with my hot water heater because it’s a baseboard hot water system with a natural gas boiler. And the hot water heater is older too so I’m concerned about it.

The technician pulled out the natural gas boiler with a line and they started to go out again. It’s not air tight and he did say something about that. He pointed out that I didn’t have an air shut-off valve. Unfortunately, the situation is one of those things where American Home Shield doesn’t usually replace the unit until it goes. That makes me nervous. It’s fine even if I have to pay for and install a replacement myself. I just wanna make sure that it’s not gonna void the warranty with the hot water system. But I’m having trouble getting to the customer service person to have that discussion. I can’t navigate their website or their phone prompt to ask this more general question either. But that’s the only thing I’ve been having trouble with.

Nonetheless, the warranty is very valuable. In one year, I’ve had an oven claim, needed the heater service and needed a washer repair. I became a property manager and I didn’t have the time to worry about my own repairs. That was why I got the Home Shield and although I was worried about not picking my contractors, everyone has been wonderful.

My neighbor reported that my air conditioning was making a really loud noise and it sounded like there was a specific part that was going to go out. I had some issues with air conditioning before, so I asked All Pro Air, the contractor from AHS, to come out and check it. We've had very high temperatures in Bakersfield this summer and I didn’t want it to go out again while we were experiencing temperatures above 100. This was one of the fastest claims I've ever experienced, especially with air conditioning. I submitted it that evening after my neighbor had come over to tell me the problem and they came the following morning. I've had experiences where I was calling them and they were so busy that they couldn't come. But this time, when they called me and said that they were on their way, I told them that I had to make some changes so that I could go to work late and be here when they arrived.

They told me that the issue was exactly what my neighbor said except the problem was that there was no preventative maintenance in the plan. So until the unit goes out, they could't do anything about it. But the gentleman was really good in checking it out and he checked how many amps was involved. Part of the issue was that it's not operating efficiently, so it gets overheated, which can cause it not to turn on.

Luckily, we haven't really had a hot weather since then. I've turned the unit on several times and it continues to work. But the tech told me that he was gonna note it on there that he had identified that as an issue and that it's likely that it will go out in the future. This was an excellent experience for me and the young man was very knowledgeable. I have had instances where a previous company didn’t call me or when I'm calling them, they weren't responding, so I had to call American Home Shield then they got out there as quickly as possible.

I had another experience with the same air conditioning company. My AC also went out so I contacted them and left them repeated messages. But they didn’t get back to me, so I contacted American Home Shield. Apparently, the lady had to put the claim in. So that’s the one instance that I've had with them where someone failed to follow through and it was on American Home Shield’s side. So it hasn’t all been rosy, but I've been with AHS for many years and I've had an overall positive experience with them. I like that I can put in the request for service online and they send a confirmation then tell me who has been assigned as well as the company's number. They also tell me that if the tech doesn't reach me within two days, then contact AHS. But almost everyone has been really good about contacting me within that time period and setting up an appointment.

I’ve had a lot of things that have been replaced, from the garage door opener to the dishwasher, to a couple of washers and dryers. Everything has been right on to what was expected.

The contractor for the water heater has done great. But there was a plumber that AHS sent out who was not able to fix an issue right. There was also another one that we had for our central air who said they fixed it, but it still wasn’t fixed. And I’ve told AHS not to send them to my house again. AHS may not have the vendor that you are asking for, but they have other vendors that will do the same work that you can pick.

Things break all the time and you may not expect it. In an emergency situation, you need AHS and it’s a huge deal. For instance, this recent claim with $1,000 for after-hour service and the water heater, I only paid $76. That’s amazing and hard to believe, but it works. I bought two bottles to have it cleaned out. The two bottles cleaned some of it, but it didn’t clean all of it.

I also had a claim for the ice maker, and he noticed that there were pieces that were broken and he took pictures of it. When he came back, he took pictures and the claim was denied again. So, when I called AHS back, I let them know the person that came was very negative. So, they sent another company out. Elite came out and replaced the a tray in my freezer. So that works tremendously well. When I called about my dishwasher, they said the claim was denied. But I said, "I don’t think so.” So, they were trying to find me a company here but I told them I wanted Elite. So, they contacted them, and the tech came out yesterday. He told me the dishwasher piece needs to be replaced. So, he put in a claim for it to be replaced. The piece isn’t gonna be replaced until about a week from now.

I like American Home Shield. I’ve had them before, and they really helped me out when I was going through a hardship. I went to somebody before, but they were horrible. I came back to American Home Shield and I’m content. I’ve been happy ever since and I’m not going anywhere. As long as I own my house, I’m set for life with them.

I called American Home Shield. Everyone was very pleasant and took the claim. They sent a repairman, Jerry Harris Guaranteed Services. He fixed the problem and told me to call him back if I had any problems. I had no problems but I called him back because he solved the problem.

I have a couple problems going on right now. When I submitted claims to AHS, getting through to somebody took me long but it wasn't unusually long. The people at the other end took care of the problem, emailed me and told me who would be coming. I've had a very nice gentleman for my technician. I’ve been very pleased with American Home Shield. Our oven stopped working in 2015. After several attempts over 3 years, our oven was serviced by multiple AHS-referred vendors. Multiple electrical boards were changed but the oven never worked properly. AHS refused to change our oven and kept trying to send in yet another repair vendor. Even though the last vendor stated there is nothing else they could do, AHS refused to pay for a new oven. We never got a satisfactory resolution despite calling their customer support. We were passed to another department and were kept on line for about 3 hours without anyone answering.

Just find yourself a reputable repairman and cut out the middleman! We are using Yelp from now on. AHS has a good name but the vendors they contract with are not the best in the business and in our dealing, they were shady. It seems they have a vested interest NOT to recommend replacing the unit. We are not certain about length of time or number of repeated repairs prior to AHS replacing a unit. After not having a working oven for over 3 years despite paying our premiums, we cannot recommend this company. Buyer beware.

Our last repair of our dishwasher we paid them our fee, repair person came, dishwasher needed a new control panel. We waited a few weeks for approval from AHS but eventually we're denied for silly reasons which people on the phone could not defend. In the end if we didn't have AHS it would have saved us $100, the repair would have been done within a week, and we would have been saved time hassling with AHS on the phone. We're canceling.

We purchased a warranty from this company based on a recommendation from our realtor. This used to be a good company but their main goal now is to take your money and give you nothing in return. AHW sent a contractor over to our home to look at our stove which was broken. The contractor said he would get back to us within two days. Eight days later we called him and he refused to return our calls so we spent over an hour on hold with AHW only to be told that the contractor determined the stove "wasn't worth fixing". We were told that the repairs "needed to be researched".

Two weeks later we spent nearly two hours on hold and were told that the parts to fix the oven still "needed to be researched" and they would let us know in two days what the outcome is. It is now five days later and we haven't heard anything. The parts for this stove are readily available because we called the manufacturer ourselves and that's what we were told. We have filed a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner for our state and considering a personal lawsuit. I am shocked at this company and their business practices.

I have been an AHS customer for over six years. Over the past six years, I have utilized AHS on average twice a year for furnace repairs and appliance repairs. I had great experiences with both the service companies they partner with and AHS customer service, until now. This year, I contacted the company for a gas furnace issue with the unit making extremely loud noises and rust/soot flakes. There is clearly an issue based on the noise alone. I have had their service company to my house twice last week and both times the technicians agree that the unit should not make that loud noise. They had made NO repairs and continue to submit a report to AHS that states there is no mechanical failure.

I have called AHS 6 times (waited on hold for 1 hour each time, so wasted SIX HOURS on hold) only to be told by AHS the service company says no mechanical failure, so no issue. I have told them repeatedly based on our contract their definition of mechanical failure states: while turned on, the item should operate without causing damage, irregular sounds, smoke, etc. It failed the definition on the 2nd point yet they will not repair or replace the unit. I have now requested a second opinion from another company through their customer service (used AHS chat feature which was a good experience).

In the past, I would have (and have) recommended this company. The fact that I might actually need a replacement and have been given the runaround from AHS and the AHS partner has marred my experience with them and at this point would warn against using their services and research competing home warranty companies. I have spent over 11 hours in five days to resolve this issue and NOTHING has been resolved.

After reading all the nice reviews about AHS before purchasing the home warranty service, I am really disappointed with my first experience putting in a service call. First, it is so hard getting a live person on the service line. I was on hold for over an hour and finally when it sounded like someone was picking up the call, I got hung up on! This was after 11 days of trying to get the contractor that AHS set up for me to call me back to re-schedule the service appointment! Finally after multiple calls to the contractor, they called back to re-schedule the appointment. But, once the contractor came out to the house, they did not repair anything!

They said they had to get authorization from AHS to fix a broken light switch! A week goes by and I don't hear anything from the contractor or AHS about the authorization or follow-up appointment. I log onto the AHS website and the status of the service request says "completed"! Now I'm on hold with AHS again to try to get in touch with a live person so that I can ask what is going on. So far, my experience with AHS is going horribly. They need to have more people pick up their phones and get better contractors who actually call you back after multiple phone calls.

We wanted to schedule a re-key appointment and after being placed on hold for over half an hour, we used the AHS website to schedule the appointment. We were sent a confirmation saying that John from Realty Rekey would be at our house between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m on December 2nd. The rep never showed and both the AHS and Realty Rekey phone lines are so busy that it is impossible to reach a live person. This has been a terrible experience and I DO NOT recommend AHS!

The contractor figured out what was going on quickly, and fixed it, and let us know how much it was going to cost. It seems like there were issues that aren’t covered with our heating and AC unit. So, we're paying the service fee plus the monthly fee and the company. So, it seems to add up. American Home Shield could discover more of the issues that are more common, usually, like the refrigerant which is not covered. My understanding is that every time they come out, they're doing a service fee. Now, however, if there is an issue where it's the same thing, they will do a callback, but if it's an issue where they're not covering it, then you're spending money to keep having things fixed that’s not covered under the warranty.

The furnace sensor needed to be cleaned and American Home Shield handled it right away. I submitted the claim online and navigating their website was easy and painless. Then someone came out and fixed it. I really like this technician. He was super professional, and he spoke English. I understood him. For the past year, I've had three services and my last two were excellent but the other one was terrible.

I had a technician in the past that I had a huge problem with. Something was wrong with my refrigerator, and the guy came out to fix it. He pulled the fridge out so he could look at it and scratched my floor. I pointed out that he scratched my floor, but he just said “Oh,” and “Okay.” So I told him that I wanted him to indicate on the form that he scratched my floor. He replied that he couldn't do that. Then he called his boss, and all of a sudden, he said he didn’t scratch it. It was there.

I called his boss and his boss would never return my calls. I called American Home Shield and they said that was not right and that they would give me $100 service credit for it. It was like I didn’t have to pay for the service. It was okay, but my floor is still scratched. Then they told me that I could take it up with my insurance or try to get the money from the service people. But they wouldn’t return my call and they were saying they didn’t do it. So it became my word against this guy’s word. I was really upset with that, and bottomline, I still have the scratch in the floor.

I met people at my work and mentioned that I didn't know how I was gonna afford to pay for repairs and one girl said she and her husband had Home Shield for years, and they've never had an issue with them. She said with me being single, I need that. I had a leakage under my kitchen sink, and that went into my basement and to my bathroom. The contractors AHS sent were great. One had to go to Lowe's three times. He kept getting the wrong size. It was pouring down rain and I wouldn't have done all they've done. They apologized. They respect it being raining coming in my home.

However, I'm upset because I had been trying to call them because my understanding is I was only supposed to pay $107, and now they're hitting me with a $97 bill. Nobody will explain to me why, so I'm getting ready to cancel it. I haven't used it in a whole year, and when I called, they said that I owed another $97. I called American Home Shield five times, and they kept saying they were gonna contact me, and call the people that came and did it to ask why they charged.

Right after it actually happened, I had a girl from Home Shield call me about getting an upgrade. She went over everything with me, and I agreed in everything. It's gonna be like $10 more if they come out, that it was a better deal because I haven't used them that one time. I've had so many people call me and not the right ones are calling me. Nevertheless, I highly recommend Home Shield ever since I had them, because the job they had done what would have probably cost me $3,000, and as a single homeowner, it's perfect.

My kitchen sink was clogged and would not clear by any means that I do. I tried to submit a claim for it earlier in November because I signed up with American Home Shield a few weeks before that. I was already three weeks into my plan. I tried to file my claim online at first. I had an account and it showed it, but it wouldn’t let me ask for service. I then called in and I didn’t enjoy my interaction with the American Home Shield rep. I told her I could see myself but I couldn’t get service. She told me that was because I was not live yet and that I wouldn't go live until the last day of the month. I was surprised to find out that the policy didn’t activate till weeks after one initiates it.

I asked the woman if for an upcharge I could have the policy activated. The rep was giving me an answer I didn’t like and that answer really made me wonder if I should get the home warranty or not. The question with the clogged sink for me was if I should wait like this for 10 days or if I should call a service provider like a normal plumber. But if I called a service provider, then the perceived value to me of the whole home warranty thing was not as good. It was weird that I couldn't pay more to have my policy activated sooner because that was the moment when American Home Shield could lose clients like me. It’s something that they should consider.

I bought a house two years ago and got a home warranty with it. I chose not to renew the home warranty and I kept getting renewal notices from rival companies. I decided to do the home warranty this year and went with American Home Shield just because I wanted to try another company. With my previous home warranty, I only called once to have a small thing fixed on the compressor of my air conditioner. That company was much easier to get in touch with them and it was much faster to speak with them. With American Home Shield, it took a while to talk to somebody who didn’t give me the best answer.

On the very first day my policy kicked in, I asked for a service call. Once they scheduled the service call, I had a 2:00 to 6:00 service window and no one called me. At 4 o’clock, I got a little worried and I thought I could just keep waiting till 6:00. But I also thought about calling to make sure that somehow everything transferred through and someone was really on their way to my house.

I called the service provider whose name I was given on an email from American Home Shield, and they told me that they close at 4 o’clock but that I could leave a message. I did that because it was exactly 4 o’clock. I then called American Home Shield and I was on hold for 40 minutes when the service provider showed up at my door. It was possible that it was a really busy time for American Home Shield, but it was also possible that they were understaffed in their phone center.

Also, when I called in to schedule the service, they asked for me to give them an account to debit my payment from. That was a new experience for me. In my past, whenever I had a home warranty, I always ended up paying somebody directly for a service call. But this was American Home Shield saying, "We're pre-arranging to be able to suck out your money," which was a little scary. It’s supposed to be a set amount of money but if you do that, you never know what they’re gonna take. Also, it was $75 when I thought I signed up for the plan where it was $50.

The plumber who came out was very knowledgeable and persistent. He made a guess about what it was and he used a long steel snake. He said he thought it was grease and it was 30 feet away from my house. I actually don’t cook with any oil and don’t put anything like that down the drain so it was probably long-term stuff that built up from the previous people who stayed in the house. The plumber also cleaned up after himself which is a miracle these days.

Hopefully my succeeding experience with American Home Shield wouldn't always take forever to reach them. And it could be bad luck or it could be that is the way they are. In which case, I can’t recommend them because with mine it was just an inconvenience. But the waiting forever and the rep telling me that the policy doesn’t initiate were not her fault as much as it was American Home Shield’s standards. But if your house is flooding, you can’t be waiting two hours. It would be better to call someone for whatever cost to immediately start dealing with it.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling and when I called American Home Shield to submit my claim, it went through the automated system. You push a button if you wanna put in a service request and that was pretty easy. The contractor seemed to be polite when he came. He didn't fix the problem because he told me there was nothing wrong with the unit. Then, 20 minutes after he left, the unit did exactly what I told him it did. I tried to call him and he didn't answer. I texted him and told him that it was doing what I told him before. I asked him if it was normal and he texted me back and said it wasn’t. He said I had to put in another request. He couldn't just turn around and come back. I had to call in yesterday and AHS is sending a different vendor or provider to come out and look at it.

Last Thursday, I noticed that the air conditioner wasn’t working because I turned it down to 75 and it never got below 79 degrees in my house. We spent Thursday and Friday nights miserable and on Saturday, we got a cool fan. So by then, I opened a window and we were all good to go, but still, the outside unit of the air conditioner didn't come on. Yesterday, I called to check on the guy that came out Monday to see what the status was and on the other times I called, it said, "We're experiencing high call volume. If you like for us to call you back, push one." I didn't get that option so I had to hold for 45 minutes. It would be nice if AHS always had that option. It was playing music and every nine minutes, it would say, "You're 3rd in the queue or 5th in the queue or something like that," so you kinda have an idea if I'm 25th in the queue and maybe I want you to call me back and give me that option.

I had a problem with my AC which stopped working. I called American Home Shield and had them schedule a company to come out. The company they chose was Total Air Care, also known as Polar Plumbing, and they came out promptly. However, that was the start of a nightmare after that, taking up almost a month of time.

The tech was a very pleasant person and I let him go outside to work on the AC. About 40 minutes later, he showed me two pipes that were going to the condenser coil and they looked like they had been cut and separated. He said that I was missing parts, took pictures and sent them in. The first response was that there was a problem with the unit and they probably needed to have the compressor replaced. Then, they said there were missing parts, which was one of the things that American Home Shield didn't cover. They also told me there was an uncovered cost of $849 and asked if I was willing to pay to get it fixed. It was in the middle of summer in Florida, so I told them to get it done, although I was not happy about it.

From that point on, it took weeks of trying to get in touch with them. I called the AC company up and was on hold for about 15 minutes. Then, I got to the receptionist who really couldn't do anything and said she gotta transfer me to the appropriate department. I waited on hold for another 30 minutes and asked the secretary to transfer me to the person I needed to speak with. However, the secretary said that they couldn't call them directly and that they had to leave them an email, then they would get back in 24 to 48 hours. They left a message and it just perpetuated the phone tag, and I had to go through that over and over again.

They finally had the technician call me who said he was ready to come out. He told me they've got everything they need for my system and the cost was gonna be $4,900. I asked what happened to the $850 and was told they decided that my system had been open to the elements for way too long for them to guarantee that would fix it, so they had to replace the whole system. I called AHS back after doing the dance with the contractor for a while and AHS said that I could get a second opinion. They also asked if I would like to have them send another company out and I said yes.

The next company they sent out was Comfort Zone. I looked up the two companies after they dispatched the second company to see what kind of a ride I was in for. The first company was rated as an F by Better Bureau until their status was revoked. They had a long-standing, repetitive cycle of complaints and an inability to contact anybody from management. The second company, on the other hand, still had zero complaints on BBB.

The tech from Comfort Zone came out, opened up the AC, looked at it and told me there were no missing parts and that somebody disconnected the condenser coil because they suspected there was a leak there. He sprayed some soapy water on it, hooked up the pressure and it started bubbling down at the bottom. He then said there was a hole in the compressor. It was aluminum and since it couldn't be fixed, it had to be replaced. He wrote up the order and sent it in.

AHS said it was something they covered. They ordered the part and then, they discovered how expensive that part was and decided to replace it, which was a little more expensive to me. It went from $300 to $500 but I had a brand new system. In the end, they covered it and I only needed to pay the out-of-pocket expenses that they didn't cover and I was cool with that.

I have nothing but good experiences with American Home Shield. When there was an issue with the microwave, I submitted a claim for that with AHS online. The technicians who were sent were very professional and polite. They looked at the microwave and tried to repair it. A couple of days later, my wife said it was still acting up. So the techs came back out and realized it couldn’t be repaired, so they suggested the microwave be replaced. AHS got in contact with me and said they would do that. I just a got call earlier today about the microwave and from what I could tell, it shouldn’t be that long for it to be replaced. I have to pick out which one and what style. Once I do that and get that back to them, they would submit it and get the microwave to me. So far, AHS has been great and I'm glad I signed up with them.

I've made two claims to American Home Shield and I did both of them online. On the first one, I had a sink stopped-up in the bathroom and couldn't get it unstopped myself. The second one was when my heater was not blowing hot air and was making a little bit of noise. They had to order a part and the repair took a week. The contractors they sent were quick. They made their appointment, got in here quickly and resolved the problem within a reasonable amount of time. I live in an older house so, I had a lot of things done when I first moved in and I knew that there would be things coming up along the way. I have been with AHS for a year and I enjoy having them. I would recommend them.

I typically submit claims online. It's easy although not nearly as specific. It's tailored for people who are lazy, and who are not really good at describing issues. The only frustration I've got is I can't provide American Home Shield the level of detail before they decide who to send out and how to address the issue that I'd like to be able to give them, because all I can do is check a box that says 'washing machine's broken'. The online claims process works but I feel there's so much more I could contribute and I don't get the opportunity to.

In Midland Odessa in West Texas, half the multitude is Mexican and we've had folks show up that couldn't even speak English. But they know how to fix things, which doesn't give you a warm, fuzzy feeling about the confidence of the individual you've got, or recourse, if he decides to go to Mexico when he gets in trouble. I'm not a happy camper but I understand that is the nature of the workforce out here.

The latest claim that we had was for the washing machine and American Home Shield sent one of these clowns out. He fixed the problem, but four months later, it broke again. At that time, I spoke to somebody at American Home Shield and told them what I thought, and within two days, they just agreed and told me they were gonna send me a new washer. American Home Shield is an excellent service provider. They're responsive and they're doing the best they can to support my needs. Unfortunately, I don't think they have the kind of tools they deserve to do that in the form of the repair people. Still, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

There was something wrong with my washer door, so I called the gentleman who came out for my washer before. He thought that it was the lock, so he replaced the lock but it still didn’t work. He then called American Home Shield. AHS then told me to go down to a dealer and take a look of what they were going to be replacing my washer with and make sure it would fit. But then they didn’t have that washer available, so AHS called me back to say that they were upgrading me. So, I got a wonderful Whirlpool washer and I really like it a lot. It has a steam clean in it and my other one did not. The only bad thing is I couldn’t use my pedestal that I used to have and now, I have to go buy another pedestal because now I have a dryer high and a washer low. All the manufacturers use different connection gizmos for their appliances.

The guy that they sent for my washer was absolutely wonderful. He called me right away, set me up an appointment and he came when he said he would. Also, my last two claims with AHS had been simple but before that, it was horrible. It was 115 degrees and my air conditioner wasn’t working. I had to wait almost 13 days for somebody to come out and look at it. Also, when I called, I was waiting on the line forever but that was the only negative.

Customers for almost 20 yrs, we have made approximately five claims and only had minimal difficulty with AHS until last month. We initiated repairs for multiple appliances on 11/9, during that call we were assured that multiple appliances can be included under one work order for a single charge. Although we asked that the initial service fee not be debited until 24-48 hrs after the technician completed svc, it was debited immediately. The 1st technician arrived on 11/15 with only one appliance on his work order. The parts for that repair were not ordered until 11/29 and we were finally told today they will not arrive until after 12/6!

Another tech came out on 11/17 and after two more visits, on 11/29 completed repair on the dishwasher but only partial repair of refrigerator because ice and water dispensers are not covered. We have spent 40-60 minutes on hold with AHS FIVE different times to determine the status of the outstanding repair only to have the svc rep claim to be unable to give us that information and promise to call back within 24 hrs. No one calls back.

Our account has also been charged for two more service calls and we have been told that is because we requested add-on services for the additional appliances. The original tech did not have a complete work order and a different tech was dispatched to complete the work, we are being charged repeatedly and our appliances are not even repaired! Customer service has been virtually nonexistent and when we have finally gotten someone on the phone they have been rude and provided no assistance at all. It's a shame this company has gone downhill since we first purchased our warranty. After the remaining repairs are completed to our satisfaction we will no longer be AHS customers.

I requested service to American Home Shield on one of my air conditioning units. It started back in June and the company that they used went twice to my house. But the second time, they find out that there was a bigger issue instead of the first time. My tenant was without air conditioning for at least three months. So, I had requested another company that was closer to my house and then finally, they got it figured out and they fixed it.

Also, the first company was trying to charge me at least over $500 to just service the air conditioning unit again, when it was serviced the first time. American Home Shield kinda helped me out in a way that, "Okay. Who's gonna pay for it and why the charges were so high and then all that?" But Home Shield went through the whole process, getting the supervisor, the financials and everything else, and it was perfect. So, I was happy with it. I will keep in until I have the house. AHS has a good coverage. They got good plans and I will use them for all the needs for my house. I will recommend it to a friend.

The coil went out on the air conditioner and the contractor that American Home Shield sent out tried to push us to get a whole new air conditioning system instead of letting AHS do the repair. They also told us that it takes American Home Shield 48 or more hours to reply to a claim. My brother, however, works for an air conditioning company and he works for American Home Shield. He said that was a lie because it doesn't take that long. The contractors were holding out on us. They were trying to push this big unit on us knowing we could afford it.

We told the contractor that we would rather have the unit repaired as we are gonna move out of this house next year and put it up for sale. However, the guy got mad when we said that we just wanna get it fixed, and they never got back with us. We waited over a week and did not hear anything. So we had to call American Home Shield, and when we did, they said they never got the claim. We called the contractor and told them that AHS said it was closed and they have to put a new coil in. They said they would see what was going on and they must have turned the claim in immediately because AHS called us within the hour, telling me what my part was gonna be and what I was gonna have to pay for out of pocket.

AHS was doing a great job on that part and I love them but sometimes, I'm not comfortable with the service people they send out such as this one. The contractors are here today putting in the new coil and the guy that came out before didn't come out again. They just sent two installers. They were very nice and charming, but it was hard to communicate with them. They are re-fixing the unit and they're doing a good job. It's very valuable having the warranty on the property because if we would have to pay for that coil, it would have cost thousands of dollars but we only had to pay $1,400, so that was good. I've had AHS before with other homes and they have sent people out that were wonderful. I would recommend them.

Their website was very user-friendly but I wish it could give you an opportunity to make a comment other than just submitting the basic description of plumbing. Doing this will make it easier for them. The first contractor called me immediately and he set the appointment. I explained to them that I own the home but I have a renter in there. I asked them to call her to set the appointment.

A couple of days went by, nothing happened, so I kept calling them and their voicemail was full. You couldn’t leave a message and you could only send them a sim text. No one ever called me back. I notified American Home Shield and they immediately dispatched another plumber and they went out and took care of everything immediately. The whole process took about eight days but I blame it on the first plumber. My renter could not use the master bathroom shower through that whole time and it was an inconvenience to her. But since the repair, my renter said it was perfect and the contractor did an excellent job.

I have multiple homes with American Home Shield and not all the claims that I’ve had to use them have been perfect. I have two homes in remote areas in North Georgia and you can’t always dispatch a vendor to take care of the issue that’s over 100 miles away. You sometimes have to go out of the realm and find one within the local area. But with the house that I have in Stone Mountain, they’ve always immediately sent out someone because they have more vendors available within that range.

It was more valuable when I was working because I was on the road a lot and they could get a contractor to come out here. But even when I was around, it was difficult to get a contractor in this town to show up. I’ve been doing most of the claims online if the software lets me do it. But sometimes, you can’t describe it and they don’t have enough options to say what it is that you want done. I’ve got two furnaces in the house, one out in the pool and one for air. If I have a problem with the furnace and then go back with another furnace problem, the website tells me, “You already recorded that.” I don’t have an ability to say I’ve got another problem with the furnace if I have one of those claims already underway.

On another note, Air Service Heating & Air Conditioning came out when the furnace wasn’t coming on and those guys were good. I told them what was wrong so they looked about the furnace and then traced the issue back. It wasn’t the furnace. It was the thermostat that wasn’t working. So they replaced the thermostat and then the furnace came back on again. Everything’s okay now.

Any modifications that they are doing is supposed to be determined to be defective by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, or a manufacturer has to do a recall with the determination that it’s been defective. That’s the way I understood it. I’ve talked to six different people, and they couldn’t explain it thoroughly enough that I could make a decision. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I've been with them since we bought the house in 2006 and I highly recommend them. American Home Shield is fine in all respects except when it comes to replacing water heaters, they mislead you and I'm not too happy with the procedure. They tell you it's an insurance policy, but I've had two water heaters replaced. They came out for one, and it didn't need to be replaced. I always end up paying $400 to $500 for the replacement and they call it code enhancement, but it's not. The last time, the guy said he'd have to do some work, which was essentially the work done to replace the water heater.

On a different note, I did a claim online for two appliances and the site worked well. The contractor who came out thought the stovetop was okay, fixed the broken microwave and it turned out that the stovetop wasn't okay. I called and they came back a day later. A part was replaced and it cured the problem. The contractor was very professional and I was pleased.

The people at American Home Shield are wonderful whenever I call to submit a claim. I know other people that have home warranties where they paid for the warranty and they don't get anything out of it. With AHS, there's no hassle. When I couldn’t get the outlets to work, the contractor that AHS sent out went through and tested them all. There was a light switch that we thought went to a different thing on there, and it fixed the bedroom one. Then in the basement, it took him a while but there was a GFI on the outside of the house that had tripped the outlet. The repair made the outlets work, which was a good thing. I was very pleased.

I'm pleased with American Home Shield. I use the warranty for my rental house and I get my money's worth out of it every year. If I have to submit a claim, I just call the American Home Shield phone number. There was once though that I was on hold for about an hour. That wasn’t good but that’s the only complaint I have. American Home Shield even contacts me and the tenant so it’s really nice. That’s what needs to happen and it didn’t that much to get that organized. American Home Shield has already sent people out there twice this year, once for plumbing and once for electrical. The garbage disposal was replaced and then an electrical problem in the patio room was fixed. I was really happy. There was another time for a leak but they didn't find anything wrong.

Most recently, Royal Air came out to fix the heater. They had to clean it and that wasn't covered. But they were there and they got everything done right away. I was pleased with that. The tenants had a new baby in the house and I wanted heat in there. In fact, I’m gonna use that company for the summer check-up. I do two check-ups in a year, for the winter and for the summer. I used someone else for the winter check-up and they didn't catch that the heater was dirty. They charged me $200 just to go in there and look at it. That was the second air conditioning and heating company that screwed me over. So I was happy with Royal Air. I needed a company that I could rely on.

Everything has all been working fine since the repair. The garage door guy did a fantastic job and he was great to work with. I also had pool pumps that were leaking and faulty. After the repair, the pool pump still leaks a bit periodically, but it works all right. It'll be fine for now. I work for a contractor myself and the way these guys conduct business is all very good. Having AHS is a good investment and a good idea, especially for a new house.

American Home Shield is the worst. I’m on hold right now and have been waiting for them for an hour. It’s ridiculous. They have around two hours wait time then when the reps get on the phone, they act stupid like they don’t know what you're talking about. You ask for a supervisor and you gotta wait another hour. They disconnect your call and they never call back. They are horrible people. They take your money and don’t give you anything for your money but a hard time. They charge you for the contractor before the contractors come. With my refrigerator, the guy came but never looked at my unit, and I still got charged $150. I called AHS and they said they would send somebody else. That other person came but did not look at my unit either. They charged me $320 just to go upstairs and fill the refrigerator up.

As for my heater, I got charged twice but no one has ever come and look at the unit yet in my house. Service people have told me they can't come out that far, and if they come to my house, I would have to wait all day long because I’m too far from them. There is no way possible that I can take a day off of work, sit in my house all day long and wait for someone to come. That’s asinine. Meanwhile, I’m paying AHS money every month. I had thought of using them again for the last six months and I’m regretting it. I used them years ago, had problems with them, didn’t use them, used another company and then I ended up coming back to American Home Shield. It’s the worst mistake I ever made.

I just type in what’s going on with the problem, and it gets it take care of. I made a claim online and as soon as AHS got the claim, they got a tech out and the tech got me taken care of. It was just a couple days in between the tech getting called out and getting here. The heater in the house was not kicking on and the tech had to replace some diodes and reset them. As soon as he did that, the heater kicked on and started working fine. He showed me what needed to be done, explained to me what he was gonna do and why he was gonna do it. He made sure that I knew what was going on the whole time. He also showed me how, in case it happens in the future, I can reset the diodes.

On October 31, 2018 my washing machine started smoking and it smelled like burning rubber, I turned it off and called American Home Shield. After being on hold for 1 hour and 50 minutes, the representative said she’d arrange for a contractor to call me. Impressively, they did within minutes. The contractor came out the following morning and said that it could not be fixed and needed to be replaced. That afternoon, I received a call from another contractor that said they were my second opinion and said it would be a week before they could come out. Contractor number 2 comes out and says he can fix it. 2 1/2 weeks later it wasn’t fixed and after calling AHS found out that the parts had just been ordered the day before and would take another 7-10 days to receive them.

Roughly a week later, the contractor called and made appointment to come over the following day on 11/24/18. He couldn’t fix it, in fact further broke it trying to remove a part. He left. I kept expecting a call from AHS and nothing. I called them on 11/27. It is December 1st and I still don’t have a washing machine. I understand that there is a process but this is ridiculous. Twice, I was told that a dispatcher or supervisor would call me back but never did. Communication is horrible! I’m leaving on the 3rd for a trip and have to do laundry before I go. I have spent so much money going to laundromats and the inconvenience is even more frustrating than the money being spent. I live 89 miles from work, I get home about 8:30pm and then I need to get to the laundromat before 9pm or they’re closed. It’s been over a month! Get your act together AHS! When my contract is up, I’m trying a different home warranty company.

When my air conditioner broke down, it took almost 10 days for American Home Shield to resolve it. I live in Florida and it is over 90 degrees every day. I have kids in this house and was fighting with them. The first people came and said it was just a minor wire and that it was working fine. They called me while I was at work, and then I came home, and it was not working. I called them back and they said they couldn't come back for another three or four days. So then I called AHS and told them not to send those people back to my house. They sent a person from another company and he said that the motor was gone. I started crying because it's 90 degrees every day. We were putting portable air conditioners in the window to cool off my house, which is big and it could not do it. The guy felt bad for me, so he told his workers to find the piece of the motor for me. They came back and put it in the very next day, which was really good.

I'm tired of AHS always using their people. The people that they utilize might be 80 miles away from my house. That doesn't make any sense. I've been dealing with AHS for a few years now, and I'm in the process of trying to decide if I still wanna be bothered by them. They're always costing me money. I can never just pay the $100 service fee, which is what I'm supposed to pay. I always gotta come out of pocket for additional fees. It's like they automatically figure most things they do not cover then they'd add those to the not covered list. So when they come out, I'm always gonna have to pay enough. They really need to step up their game.

And then sometimes, they double bill me. They used to make me pay the $100 service fee when they came. And now, they don't do that anymore. They just bill me, or they take it out of my account because they have a credit card. I would tell others that they need to research other facilities before they try going with AHS. I will also tell them the problems that I had with American Home Shield.

My son was telling me that the AC wasn’t blowing cold air in his room so instead of me changing out the thermostat which I already knew was the problem, I put in a request to American Home Shield so their contractor can also look at it as well. Their contractor, Comfort First Heating & Cooling, dropped in a basic gray thermostat but I don’t even think it was comparable to what I had already. I asked him about it and they did check it out. But for my son’s room, they weren’t able to do anything so I was a little bit disappointed in that.

At one point, it blew cold air in the room and they just told me that it’s because I have a split-level unit. They just told me I have to turn the thermostat down downstairs to make it cool upstairs. I did that but it still didn’t change and it was still hot. I felt like I wasted my money because I already knew I needed a thermostat. It was something that my husband could’ve just popped in and I could’ve bought a digital one for the price that I paid for somebody to come out.

I have had American Home Shield for five years and submitting a claim to them was really simple. I just go online, submit the claim, then in 24 hours, somebody will call me to say that they will gonna come out and give me the date that they will come in. I only used AHS twice and both claims were all right. I was just disappointed with the last one with what they told me and I felt they could have done something more. The contractors they've sent out have all been cooperative, nice, polite, clean and professional. And so far, the stuff that they've fixed are still fixed. The most recent one was for the vent hood over my stove. The motor had gone out on it which they replaced.

My hot water heater failed and it had to be replaced. I went online and requested service to American Home Shield and unfortunately, they dispatched a firm out of California. So, I paid my $75 fee and that was sent to that firm in California. When I called the next day to find out when the service was gonna happen, the firm in California said they don’t service Arizona. They turned it back to American Home Shield and they picked a local company in Arizona. It took two days to get them out.

The tech found out what the problem was with the hot water heater and he told me that he had to bypass some kind of sensor. It left me feeling a little uneasy that he bypassed something and so I called somebody else and had them take a look at it. What he had bypassed was the sensor that detects how hot the water is. That contractor had called American Home Shield and said the hot water heater does need to be replaced. On AHS's end, they allowed me to go ahead and get that replaced which I did with a different contractor. Then I submitted my bill and I got reimbursed for that.

Unfortunately, I'm still getting billed by American Home Shield to pay the Arizona firm. I paid it and then I realized I had paid it. I called American Home Shield and talked to a lady there who said I had paid and they paid the wrong vendor. She said they would refund the extra payment, make the adjustment, and it would take care of itself. But I'm still getting invoiced. Other than that, it was a positive experience overall because they followed through and my hot water got replaced.

AHS is the only one I would choose and I wouldn’t have another warranty company. I would probably go without a warranty if I didn’t have AHS. I've had them, for 10 years and I trust them. They are also rated number one on the internet. I call and set up an appointment for somebody to come out for my claims. I pretty much know what's covered before I call. When my washer wasn’t working, AHS sent Early Bird Appliance Repair Company which is one of the best companies I've ever had come out. They had been to my house before to fix a fridge. I would recommend Early Bird on anything.

AHS also sent out TLC to my home as well as a pool company. The people of those companies were polite, efficient, and good. They fixed the problems. Also, the contractors AHS sent out came out very quickly, around a day or two. The contractors that are really good are great. But AHS has a couple of contractors that I have used and wouldn't use again. If AHS gives me somebody I'm not familiar with, I don’t accept it until I looked at the reviews on the internet.

The second company that AHS sent out to do the water heater did a great job, but the first one really messed it up. The first company came out and said the water heater wasn’t leaking and that the leak was coming from somewhere else. We then hired a plumber who came in and said that the bottom of the water heater is completely leaking out. We ended up having to pay $400 out of pocket, plus the service fee and another call from AHS. The interactions with the AHS reps were great though.

I opened a ticket online for the problem and they assigned me to the contractor that will perform the repair, but I also made a phone call to AHS to find out something. We were rendered the service and I paid the fee. The GE tech that came out was very professional. He had to order some parts and he came back after a week when the parts came in. Everything has been smooth and perfect since the repair. I could see that the case was open for some time, then finally it changed to closed status. I would definitely give a positive feedback for AHS based on my recent seamless experience with them.

American Home Shield has been okay, but it's a little difficult when you need to make some changes online with your claim, because it would just direct you back to call. There's no place where I can put comments, so I have to sit online for 30 or 40 minutes. That part of the process needs to be looked at. When I had a claim for the hot water heater, the service provider that American Home Shield sent was the worst that I've ever dealt with. I still do not have my hot water replaced. They have $335 of my money that I had to pay upfront before they gave me an appointment when I called to change the appointment. Then they said I had to pay another $100 upfront before they give me an appointment. I never paid for services beforehand. So I asked yesterday for American Home Shield to give me another company to deal with.

I called and requested a new contractor once again and was told there wasn't one available but that I could use any contractor and they would reimburse me for the amount I pay them as long as the contractor I use calls them to give them a quote and have the service approved. With their current hold times I knew this would never happen.

I then asked for a refund and was told it would be 21 days. I stated that was unacceptable. I then spoke to Anthony ** - a supervisor who stated I would be receiving a refund within 3-5 business days. I was on the phone for 2 and a half hours trying to resolve this. I have had two experiences with AHS since purchasing a warranty in August. When the refrigerator wasn't working properly, the technician who arrived was not informative or easily understandable. After waiting two months for parts that were backordered, I canceled the repair and opted for replacement in order to have a functioning refrigerator. The technician did not call me to inform about the delay, I repeatedly called him for updates as weeks went by, otherwise I would still be waiting for to hear from him about parts.

My second experience was better with a Kenmore stove where a Sears technician was sent out. He was very informative and clear about what was needed. Unfortunately, the repair scheduled to take place yesterday (2 weeks later) did not happen as neither part has arrived. One will come in 2 days, but the other is... backordered. Sears was better about providing information when I called to find out why the repair had not taken place, but also warned if I did not get an email response about when the part will come in to call back. I don't like having to chase down the information, that's why I bought a warranty.

Lastly, I am attempting to reach AHS on the phone to get the information on where to send my replacement refrigerator information to get reimbursed. This is the third attempt I have made over a week to speak to someone. The first time, I hung up after an hour. The next time, I hung up after 45 minutes. Right now, I have been waiting over 20 minutes. I am calling at different times of day, days of the week, etc., but the service by phone is really lacking as who can wait for hours to be responded to? The website does not contain information on how to send in the information and neither does my contract. That makes speaking to someone the only way to get this information. At this point, I will not renew my contract when it is due as I have not seen a great benefit to this service.

This is a very negative review, but completely justified. I want to make sure no one else is stuck with the worst home warranty and service ever. Our water heater broke on Saturday, November 24 and my husband put in an order the same date. We were contacted the following Monday and had an appointment set up for Tuesday. After the appointment, we called American Home Shield that evening to try and schedule replacement. We did not receive confirmation to move forward until Wednesday night when we told them to proceed and order our water heater.

I called Thursday morning and spoke with the supervisor and she said that it had not yet been ordered, even though we had given the okay 14 hours early! Obviously, they are not in a rush at all! I called back and spoke to supervisor in the evening and it was only at 1:30 that day when they actually ordered the water heater. Now, I received word it is going to be at least 1 week before the water heater arrives. This is completely unacceptable. I don’t understand how American Home Shield expects their customers to go without water for over two weeks. You are a large company. You should, and I bet you can, expedite orders!

The most frustrating part of all this, besides the fact that we are expected to wait two plus weeks from when our water heater breaks to receive a new one with absolutely no source of water at our house and I’m currently pregnant, is the runaround we received from the customer service line. Their hold times are completely unreasonable. I had to wait an hour and 15 mins one day before speaking with a rep. That is completely unacceptable. Then when you actually speak with someone, they have no idea of their job or what they are talking about.

I asked to speak with a supervisor and when I asked her when we could expect our water heater, she said she didn’t know. Isn’t it your job to know? It’s your business and you’re a supervisor. She then told me it may take 2-3 weeks. You are a large company. You can do better than this. We absolutely will not be renewing our warranty at the end of the cycle, and would never, ever recommend American Home Shield to our friends, family or anyone for that matter.

TURNS OUT THIS PLUMBER IS NOT LICENSED!! His incompetence caused a giant chain reaction, which lead to over 1k in damages!! AHS is refusing to cover this cost, because they say they are not responsible for secondary damage. EXCUSE ME - THEY SENT US A FAKE PLUMBER and it is BECAUSE OF HIM that we had the damages! When we signed up with AHS we were told that they screen and do a background check on all their vendors. I've been with AHS for two years now and from the first time I submitted a claim to them, I did it online. It works well 'cause I can just choose what is it online. If I had to call, I'll wait on hold for an hour. They have the company who’s gonna fix it call me, instead of me contacting them. The company puts me in direct contact with the company that will be coming over.

We had some contact issues with the Elite Heating and Cooling where they couldn’t set up when they're gonna be here. They’re either here early or late. They said they're gonna do something and they didn't do it. They came back three months later, then did it. But as soon as I wrote a crappy review, AHS contacted me right afterward.

I got the home warranty for free the first year then used it, then I paid for three years for the service. I kept AHS because I've been satisfied with the quality of the repairs that their contractors did. I've shared AHS with a lot of friends and a lot of them have gotten it and are happy with it. American Home Shield is the best one out there.

I normally go ahead and call American Home Shield when I submit claims. It's usually good with the claims reps and the only issue I've had was trying to find out if something was covered. I had an issue with my drainpipe coming out of my shower. A guy came out and he clocked caulked it instead of replacing the pipe with a broken piece. Now, the caulk has worn down, so I called again. The little screw holes that hold the plate on the drain were broken and everybody I talked to said, “Why didn't they just replace the drainpipe, I mean, the pipe itself?” And then we wouldn’t have to be putting in a call again. But when I called, I talked to a girl and she made me sound like it was covered and everything. I called back and I got somebody else and the guy was real sketchy about whether or not it would be covered. I told them I didn’t wanna pay $75 to have them come out and not fix it.

I've also had claims for a receptacle that went out in the bathrooms. A piece broke on it and they replaced that. And then, my stove outlet was coming off the wall and I reported that because I couldn’t blow the stove out. I thought it was like a safety hazard. So, they remounted that on the wall for me securely. Also, I had some fan that went out and they fixed that. The last thing I had done was that drain in my bathroom shower and the guy was in and out and wasn't very insightful. But the electrician that came out one time was really friendly. They explained everything to me and were talkative.

I had a claim with American Home Shield when the blower wasn’t working and my air conditioning wasn’t cooling. United Air Tampa, Florida came out and the technician opened up the system and said that the motor part was broken and needed to be replaced. But he didn’t have the part in the truck and he had to order it, which he said might take a couple days. But for whatever reason, when he was trying to test the motor, he had the system turned off. I asked him whether he should have it turned on but he said no. Even though I know nothing about HVAC, the way he was testing it didn't make sense. But he put everything back together and when he left, something told me to turn the air conditioning on. So I turned it on and it was working fine.

It was about a week before he came back out to replace the part and since I knew I had already paid American Home Shield, I told him to go ahead and replace the part because I was not going back and reverse the charges. He went ahead and replaced the part and I watched him to make sure that he actually replaced it. It’s been fine from there. But something that was supposed to be a couple days took over a week. United Air Tampa, Florida is supposed to be so high rated but each time American Home Shield sends those guys out to me, they're always wanting to do something. I understand it’s their job to try to upsell. But I don’t ever get the extra services.

The very first time their technician came out to clean the unit, it was a brand new unit and he said, “Oh, it’s really clean.” The guy also went outside to check the outside unit because the fan wasn’t working. I told him it was a brand new unit and it had been working fine for the last year. I didn't have any problems with it so I told him that whatever he was going disconnect, he needed to go back and reconnect. But since that first incident, whenever that unit turns on outside, it pops.

But I don’t want American Home Shield to call them because the unit is actually working. I’m afraid they’re gonna do something that’s gonna cost more money. I don’t mind paying American Home Shield for the insurance service that they provide for me but I also don’t want them taken for a ride because someone’s doing something underhandedly. When I called out for the next claim, I told them that I prefer not to have that contractor sent out again. But they were the ones that American Home Shield sent out again and I didn't fight it because my air conditioning was broken. So I needed it to be fixed.

My air conditioner works fine now but the outside unit has that noise. I actually called United Tampa and told them about it and they told me they would have someone check. But no one ever came back to me again about that and that was several years ago. Nonetheless, American Home Shield is fine and I have even recommended them.

Once, I had a plumbing claim and the contractor who came didn't fix the issue completely on the first visit. He had to come back out and finish the job. But the gentleman was nice to deal with and the whole thing was handled well. The contractor was also very good to work with and I would recommend them. The plumbing is all good now.

It was very easy submitting a claim for my HVAC unit with American Home Shield. Their rep was very professional and knowledgeable. They gave me some feedback and told me the contractor would be late. When the contractor arrived, he was very courteous. He also seemed competent and understood his job. When I explained or asked questions, he answered them. He even went above and beyond and taught me things I didn’t know. Since the repair, my HVAC has been working perfectly. I’m pleased I invested in their service. If something else comes up, I’d probably use it.

I called in a clogged tub at American Home Shield and went through the automated thing. The contractors were two days early. They set me up for three days down and they had an opening so they could get here. They got the tub unclogged and it works well now. They did a real good job and were real prompt about getting here. However, sometimes stuff is covered and sometimes it’s not. I used AHS four times and out of those times, I paid twice and didn’t get service. They need to explain more what’s covered and what’s not ‘cause they’re pretty basic. It’s not worth the money.

Hello, Donald. Often times, it is difficult for us to state what is and what is not covered until a technician actually diagnoses the issue. I apologize if you did not receive an ample explanation regarding the denials for repairs. A member of our Social Media team will be in direct contact with you for further assistance.

There was a clog in a drain in the washer and water was backing up. I submitted a claim online and Central Ohio Home Maintenance came out on the same day. The technician did everything perfectly. He explained everything and broke down what he had to do. He kept me informed and cleared the clog. It was a good experience overall.

The central air and the heating mechanism on my heater wasn’t coming on. I filed a claim over the phone with AHS, which was easy to do, and they very quickly got somebody out here. It was 100% good and I was amazed. When the contractor came out, I greeted him and told him what happened. Then he was able to find where he needed to go and to fix it. He fixed it very quickly and it's been working great ever since. Other than that, I also had a claim for a leaky pipe and so far, I've been extremely pleased with the service I got from AHS as well as from the people that they sent.

I bought the house three years ago and every year, something breaks down in the house. So, staying with American Home Shield seemed like a good deal. When the spring on the garage door broke, I contacted American Home Shield and they contacted Garage Door Repair. They came out the next day and fixed it quite fast. They were done in 30 minutes. They already knew what was wrong and they had the part. However, I wished they narrowed down the time that they gave me to two hours or maybe even down to the hour. That would be a lot better instead of wasting all day waiting for them to show up. Nevertheless, AHS is a good company to deal with.
