The motor quit working on the garage door. It was a great experience when I submitted a claim to AHS for it. The contractors fixed everything the same day. They were in and out within two hours. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Communication was great and the contractor showed up on time. I was at work and he kept me up to speed with everything till I could get home to meet him to pay him ‘cause I had to pay extra. The warranty didn’t cover everything. The contractors that AHS sends have always been good. Submitting a claim to them has been relatively easy as well. I do it all from my phone online.

The companies that American Home Shield sends out lately haven't been the best but their customer service has really been good. I had two companies come out and the first company was bad. The person came out really quickly after I did the thing but he showed up at my house in his private vehicle. I thought that was odd. I said, "Well, apparently, you're not there to fix my stuff 'cause you're in your private vehicle." He said he was just gonna take down the information and then he would have the parts for my washer. When I called, he said he would there the next week to fix it. Around Tuesday or Wednesday of the week after that, he said he would be there by 12:00 to fix my equipment.
12:00 came around so I called him and he said sorry and that he would be there at 2:00. I was supposed to go ride my motorcycle that day and I was gonna leave at 2:00. I gave him a little leeway. But 2:00 came around and he didn't show up. Around 2:30, I called again. He said sorry again and that he would be there by 5:00. I was like, "Come on, dude. Really? You already ruined my day but okay, I'll give you till 5:00." 5 o'clock came around, then 5:30 and nobody was there. So I called about 5:30 and he said sorry, that he was in Woodbridge and that he would be there by 7:30.
I didn’t want him to come to my house anymore. I told him I was sorry, that I was supposed to go riding that day and that he had already ruined my day. I told him not to show up at my house. He said he already had my parts. But the fact of it was, he had already stood me up three times and he showed up in his private vehicle coming to my house – in a Mercedes, his own vehicle. I expect people to be in my place at a certain time and I had given him a lot of leeway.
I called American Home Shield and they handled the situation very well. They were concerned and very nice. They sent somebody back out and that company came out twice but they couldn't fix my washer. They had bought new parts for the washer and it was not working. I actually made the technician stay there to make sure that it would work. We saw it started spinning real bad again. He said nothing was gonna work with it – that I was not gonna find the parts for this. He said the problem was something underneath for the balancing of it and they couldn’t fix it. So actually, I'm gonna have a new washer coming in. I haven't had a washer now for a month and a half but at least American Home Shield was trying.
There was one more thing they did for me that was pretty neat. My air conditioner units are so old that the Freon for it won’t be made anymore starting next year. So American Home Shield gave me a rate of two new units. I'm paying $5,000 less to get two new units put in and the company is probably gonna be there at the end of next week to install the units. American Home Shield paid for most of the air conditioning unit to be replaced. They're charging me 9,500 for two units and that's the outside and inside. Most of the other people that came out had estimates between 14 and 20 grand. So I'm saving quite a bit of money. American Home Shield has been great.

Harris County Appliance Repair handled my issue well. My refrigerator was leaking water. They came out, assessed it, then they came back the next week and fixed it. The AHS claims process is not difficult. You just call and they take care of it and overall everybody was good.

The tech from Myers added 2.5 pounds of Freon to my AC. He's very knowledgeable, very professional, and very good. Having American Home Shield as my warranty provider is kind of a two-edged sword. I have Megan who is based in Iowa, and she has been helping me with a refrigeration issue. Our refrigerator was out. We've been dealing with a broken refrigerator for about three weeks, and I have been through four different technicians. The latest one, Sears, canceled on me an hour before they were supposed to show up.
People who have come out to fix the air conditioner and the technicians that have shown up to fix parts of the problem with my refrigerator have been very good. But it's been three weeks and I still do not have a refrigerator. And in today's world, most people are cooking at home. I have nothing to cook. Still, I can reach out to Megan all the time. She responds to my emails and she's been following up every day a technician comes, “How did it go? What do we need to do?” She offered $150 for a small refrigerator which really doesn't meet my needs but she was nice to offer that. She's wonderful.

We filed a claim with American Home Shield because our hot water heater was leaking and not functioning. I went online to do it and their website was good and easy-peasy. With everything going on, they said it could take a couple of days to a week which was fine. Sinclair was very professional. They were in and out and got the job done. They were good.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

In the five years I've had American Home Shield, I call in my claims and so far I haven't had any problems. While we had an issue with one of the techs they sent out to repair our AC system a few years ago, our recent claim was a good experience. AHS sent out Turner’s Pool and Spa and the tech from there seemed to really know what he was doing. He had to troubleshoot some stuff and he had all the equipment he needed when he came out.

We find it difficult to submit the claim to American Home Shield over the phone. It’s more efficient and we get a more rapid response when it is done online. When the technician from Above and Beyond Appliance Repair came out to repair our washing machine, he was very good but it took him a long time. Once he figured it out and ordered the part and reinstalled the part, it was fine. I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2017 and the trade fee hasn’t changed but the price keeps going up every year without any explanation. Still, I feel good about them.

There was a loud noise but the AC wouldn’t cool, and it ended up being the motor. My wife called the 1-800 number. It was our first warm deal and everybody turned on their ACs and it was Memorial Day Weekend. Friday night is when it hit, so the contractor could not squeeze us on Saturday, but then they did Tuesday after the holiday. But it was completely understandable and they did it in the morning. They had to order a part and they got it in a day and a half and installed it the next day. I'm in Chicago and it has been cold so the AC hasn’t been needed as much. Occasionally, it's popped on and it's working fine and quiet.
That was the second time JFrank Heating & Air has been out, and both times, they were fantastic. They did a good job, they're very professional and exceeded my expectations. I'm planning on using them for my preventive maintenance and everything else. Very top-notch group. I would refer them to other people, friends, and family.

The contractors that AHS sent for our AC showed up on time. They checked the system out. They told me it was working properly. It’s a new system that American Home Shield put in last summer. My wife felt it was noisy when it was on, and they felt it wasn’t. It was operating normally. The only complaint I have with AHS was that the monthly premium almost doubled from last year to this year. It’s expensive. I like American Home Shield and I had it for a good number of years. They’ve done really well by me, but it was a surprise that it would go from $56 to $104. They sent me a notice saying that this is gonna happen, and if I had any questions about it, but there’s nothing I can do with it.
But the people always seem competent. The person who put the air conditioner was exceptional. I was watching him the whole time. He was here for many hours. He put it in himself. His helper had to leave so, he was by himself. He did a very professional job. My experience has always been very positive with American Home Shield as well.

I had an issue with the capacitor which makes the fan turn. The people that came before put the wrong size on and it blew it. I then called one of the phone numbers that I had. The time before that call, I got to speak with someone, but that time, I did not. AC Rescue was very prompt. They were explaining into my husband what was wrong and what they were going to do to fix it. They were very respectful, and they were hands-on. Everything been functioning back to normal since they have been out.
Out of all that we have had, they were the third contractor that had been here for the same issue, and this was a crew that I liked -- I hope that American Home Shield keeps them. Having this home warranty is awesome. It does not matter what you call and ask for. They are right there. They know what they are talking about, and they get everything set up for you. I have recommended Home Shield to others because I really like it. They just make the whole process simple.

I had just bought the home in December, and I wanted to have my air conditioning checked to see that there were no problems. And because my Realtor had gotten me a year warranty, I had to get it done this year. So, I called American Home Shield, and they said they would get in contact with somebody. By the end of that day, I got an email from them, and C and R was out by the next day. So, I was very pleased. The tech said everything looked fine.
I had another claim soon after I moved in. I went under my vanity in the bathroom, and there was something leaking. I was going on vacation the next day. I called American Home Shield again and told them. The claim went very fast and they were pleasant. I would recommend AHS but I don’t know if I would get them again next year because I think I have everything taken care of. I’m thinking to skip a couple years, and then go back to them. At $325 a year, at that point, when they inspected it and I got the house, everything seems like it’s in really good shape. So, if nothing happens for three years, I put almost $1,000 in which I could’ve bought a water softener or heater for that amount of money. Other than that, I would definitely go back to them. So, I’m gonna keep all my paperwork and everything. So, that’s what I’m gonna do.

About a year and a half ago, the air conditioning stopped working and American Home Shield sent somebody over and they replaced the circulation fan. That went on and it was fine. About two weeks ago, the bearings on the fan were making a racket and so we called them up and four days later, they sent somebody. The guy that came over said it was the squirrel cage fan so he would have to order it. That took another four days without air conditioning and the temperature was a 100. The guy finally showed up and had a new squirrel cage fan. Then he showed me the old one which was perfect so that was not the problem. I asked him to check the motor. The motor that was put two years ago was shutting and they replaced that.
As an insurance company, AHS is doing fine. The problem is that when you call them and they say that they got 24 hours before they could back to you, that’s 24 hours that went away. Then when they get back, they assign the claim to somebody. Now, that person has another 24 hours before getting back to you. Then the person that gets back to you says they can’t go on that day, and then he comes over and troubleshoots it, and then they get three days more. So, we have a situation with an air conditioner which is very important and then it takes a week to fix. AHS needs to find a way to not have the lag time be as long as it is. I am happy about their ability to get the problem solved but I'm not happy about the efficiency of getting it resolved.

The refrigerator didn't work. It was totally warm on top. I called Home Shield and within 48 hours, the contractor contacted me and then I made an appointment with them. Williams Dependable Appliance came out. They were great. They were the only ones that fix things. The tech said something was wrong with the freezer. He put a part in and now everything works perfect. We’ve had a lot of different people and a lot of them are lazy **. They have a bunch of dumbasses too. I always ask if Williams Dependable Appliance was available but American Home Shield doesn’t commit to anything. They told me they would see what they could do but sometimes, I get them and sometimes, I don’t.

I've used the website several times and it's the quickest and it's user-friendly. I immediately received an email and a text on when to expect the contractors out. The contracting company was professional when scheduling. They were on time. When the tech showed up, he was honest, and our air worked right away. It is very hot in Bakersfield. My experiences with the contracting companies were great. The experience with American Home Shield was not. I specifically kept asking whether, if anything breaks, they would fully repair it or replace it if it needs to be replaced and they kept saying yes. But when I talked to a rep live, she said, “Yes, but up to.” American Home Shield ended up only paying up to $1,600 to fix the furnace. They said I was already tapped out for the year. I was like, “What are you talking about? That’s not how you sold it.”
I had them previously in Arizona for years and there was not a cap on air conditioning. If it was five grand, they would pay me five grand to replace it. Plus I had spoken to two of their girls and I explained the situation to them, and they both said the furnace was covered. I told the lady that and she said she was gonna listen to the recorded message and call me back, and she did. She said I was right. The rep had not told me there was a cap. She said that most people don’t know that and if they didn’t explain it to me, then that’s on them. One would think they would’ve actually done something then though. But they didn’t do anything. If they know they sold the warranty as 100% guaranteed, they should’ve at least let me ride my contract out for that for the year. The rep said they were gonna have to talk to their guys and make sure they’re selling it right because it was not fair.
But my unit is still leaking. It is not completely fixed and I can’t get it completely done now because I am all out of money. So it’s American Home Shield’s fault and yet they screwed me over. When the guy was fixing the furnace, I even asked about the tube that had some damage to it but he didn’t seem too concerned. Then after everything has been repaired, now it’s leaking all over the floor.
But other than that, everything else was good. The other claim was great. The water heater needed to be replaced and it was 500. After service, it was probably 800. American Home Shield replaced the whole thing and that was taken care of quickly. The technicians for both claims were great. I was just frustrated. I like that with the warranty, you’re pretty much guaranteed that your stuff’s gonna get fixed. In Arizona, it was. But then out here, it’s different. With the furnace, it’s also different because it’s an older unit. So right now, I’m very dissatisfied.

When I need Home Shield, I just call for what went down and they respond really well. I had an air conditioning claim and it seems to work out pretty good. RJ Wiggins Company said the compressor burned out and had to replace it two times. They just sent these guys to make sure everything was wired right. He was very customer-oriented. He told me what he was gonna do, what he did, and said everything was fine. But it could be a little frustrating sometimes when I was calling him because this had been an ongoing thing. They started in November. The guy left and then the thermostat went out. And I had to pay a lot of money for the Freon to be replaced again even though it had been done. But I didn't have to pay for anything else. From a value standpoint, it was okay.

I am somewhat satisfied with American Home Shield. My experience with Watertight Pool & Spa is a mixed bag. Apparently, Home Shield uses them a lot. They’re one of Home Shield’s preferred vendors. So they’ve been to my house, at least, a dozen times. The last time they came in was to replace a motor and it seems to be working okay now. But now, I’ve started noticing that I have bubbles in the system. So I went and looked at some videos on YouTube online. I attempted to fix it myself but I still have bubbles in the system. So I placed another call and I'm supposed to be on the schedule for Thursday. Possibly, if there's a cancellation, Watertight will come in earlier.

Submitting a claim with Home Shield was pretty simple. The hardest thing was sitting on the phone for almost two hours, trying to get in touch with them. The claim was for my main sewer line and On Time Plumbing & Heating came out to clear it up. But all they did was send the snake-through and never really checked everything thoroughly. We later found out that the main line was collapsed. Also, when I told the guy about the bathtub which was on the claim, he just said to get one of those hair things and stick it in the hole.
I kept on trying to get American Home Shield to contact me about it and see if I could get somebody else out here in an emergency status. They didn’t do the work that was needed to be done and I had to hop on them to get them to even say there was a problem. I had to go and use a different plumber who immediately scheduled a day to do it, which was two days later. He came out, excavated, put the new line in, and took the old line out. He also ran the line through the bathtub. Now, everything’s working fine.

When my refrigerator was no longer producing ice in the door, AHS worked at it with me until I got it completely rectified. The techs who came were always very courteous. The little flaps didn't work any longer and it was clearly acknowledged several times that the door could not be replaced and that it wouldn't be manufactured. They started by replacing the dispensing mechanism until that didn't work any longer either and it was totally not operational. The refrigerator would still make ice, but it wouldn't dispense through the door. But I could reach into the bucket and get ice. I was told that while the refrigerator couldn't be replaced, the parts for the dispensing of water and ice could be replaced. It was quite a while before we gave up on that. I could no longer get at the ice in the bucket because it froze in place. I gave up and made the call to AHS. They solved the issue and I got a replacement for the refrigerator.

Total Air Care has come four times since March for my AC claim with Home Shield. The tech would come out, do something, and come back two weeks later and it’s not always the same one. I don't know if those technicians are reading each other’s reports. But they were very nice and very professional. They tell us when they're gonna be here and all that was fine.
The next time a guy came, he changed a couple of things and the next day, it didn’t work. I called them. And the only thing that bothered me was they would tell me when they could come and all that time, I was moving appointments around to try to take care of what I have to take care of. Then, they wanted to come like two days later. That was not acceptable. I couldn’t keep moving stuff around. I asked to speak to a supervisor who called that late morning and I explained everything that happened. I said I couldn't wait until the following day for them to come out and she offered 4:00 to 8:00 that afternoon. Everybody was very kind. It’s just that it wasn’t getting done.
The guy came and when he left at 8:30, it was working. Then, the next morning, it was out. I called back and she wanted to come two days later. I said I could take 4:00 to 8:00 of the following night. She wanted to come at 8:00 or 10:00 o’clock in the morning and I had stuff. I said I said I could do 4:00 to 8:00 and finally, she said 4:00 to 8:00. The guy came at 4 o’clock and checked all kinda stuff. He said the only thing he could see was that there was a board inside that needed to be changed. That was a Thursday and he said it would be in on Friday. He said the unit was gonna do it again before he comes back so he showed me how to trick it into coming back on. He said I may have to do that several times, but that was the only solution for me at the time.
I called that Friday and every time I would call, the system was down. It said somebody’s gonna call me in a half-hour but nobody called. I called back and said I needed to know if the part was in. I had to make arrangements. It was the weekend and I didn't wanna be in a hot house. The girl said the part was in and she would transfer me to scheduling and they scheduled me for Tuesday, between 10:00 and 12:00. They were very nice. I just had to get a little ticked off to talk to a manager because I didn’t know when they would come

Next Gen Air Conditioning & Heating came out for the air conditioner that was making noises. The guy said nothing was whirling. What he ended up doing was putting little pieces of foam on the top shield. When he left here, I thought everything was fine but it wasn't. The air conditioner is still making noises. He tried to do something, but it didn't work. But as a person, the guy was great. It couldn't be anybody better.
On that same day, I also had a plumber come out to check something else. The water heater starts off hot then it turns ice cold. When you do these things, you just pay $75 upfront, which is good. But the plumber didn't do anything. I was explaining to Home Shield that I pay money to have the insurance. It's not like it’s free. The guy who came out for the water heater said, "This needs to be done and I can do that. This is what's wrong with it." But he was here maybe 5 minutes at the most. He said he was gonna be on hold at least an hour and he didn't have the chemical that goes to my hot water heater. But he never called back. I called Home Shield and they said the claim was closed. They called and said that there was nothing wrong with it. I have the sheet that says what is wrong with it and what needs to be done. They said that I could have another person come out.
I don't wanna call again for the air conditioner because I had already called Home Shield regarding the plumber. It would be the same thing. Also, there's no reason for me to call 'cause for one thing, you can't get through. If you call right now or anytime, you're on hold for 45 minutes. To be able to get ahold of somebody is important. They say go to the website where they ask you a question and you answer it, but it's very vague. We were just getting ready to do American Home Shield again. Our time's coming up. I had everything all ready but we're gonna find someone else.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

We got American Home Shield when we started buying our house. I saw them on TV and I called them. I asked questions and everything. I tried them out and so far, everything has been going good. Everybody talks nicely and everybody is friendly. When they sent out Total Air Care for a claim I made, they were really good. They called and let us know they would be in 30 minutes. All of them were very friendly. But we had to call them back out again because the job wasn’t done when the tech came out the first time. I asked him to go up in the attic then but he said he couldn’t fix the leak out there. The unit leaked right back out a week later.
When I called back that second time, everybody got on it. Everybody worked together and did good. They said, “Yes, we got you. You don’t have to pay anything again. We’ll have them to come back out.” Total Air Care came back out right there. I told them, “Y’all can come today if y’all need to.” But they weren’t able to. They came the next day early that morning and they fixed the unit. Everything is working. I'd recommend American Home Shield. My mom and my sister want to go through them. My sister just bought her house too. I also already sent my cousin over to American home Shield and she's with them.

When I bought the home, AHS came along with the package and I’ve since kept it. It's been good so far. I had a bird issue and there were two representatives from Terminix that came and one was an inspector. He was able to analyze my issue and really give me some good advice on what I can do. They sprayed around the perimeter of the home and they really did a great job. I was able to get the problem fixed. They were professional and very knowledgeable. But I still had to pay out of pocket to get my issue resolved. I would have liked for more to have been covered under having them come out.

American Home Shield (AHS) is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I placed a work order request on May 8th for a refrigerator that only blew out warm air. The service tech arrived on May 14th. The estimated repair cost exceeded the minimum allowed without authorization from AHS. The tech tried calling AHS for authorization to complete the repair that day, but had to leave after being on hold for over an hour. He said he would upload the diagnosis report to AHS later that day to get authorization to complete the repair. I called AHS customer service a few days later and they said they did not get the diagnosis from the service company and would reach out to them and update me.
I didn't hear back from AHS, so I called three more times (May 19,20,21) only to get the same response as the first... They did not receive the diagnosis report from the tech. Both times the AHS representative promised to call me back the same day. In both cases, they did not call. I then contacted the service company on May 22. They said the diagnosis report was sent to AHS, but would send it again. I asked for them to send it me too. I received the report within minutes via email. I've now been on hold with AHS customer service for almost an hour. I will never do business with American Home Shield again!!!! My refrigerator has been out for 2 weeks.

After 7 weeks of waiting they finally agreed that the oven needs to replaced and they replaced it.
Original Review: May 22, 2020
Updated on 06/05/2020: Since there is no option to update your review I'm writing another one about American Home Shield. This is an update to the review I did on May 22nd. I have had AHS for about 4 years now and they are normally okay with their service. But this time my oven stopped working on April 24th, 2020 and I opened a service request with AHS. Technician came on April 28th and reported that it is not repairable and it needs to be replaced. Since no action was taken from AHS side, I called them several times to get an update and every time their answer was that they are waiting for the technician to send the diagnostics report. (Mind you, every time you call the hold time is about an hour and once they answer they will ask you to hold for 2-3 minutes, but that hold is at least another 15 -30 minutes).
I called the technician several times and he said he had submitted the report right after he came off our home. On May 22 (almost a month later), I called AHS (another hour of hold) and called the technician on a 3-way call and have him submit it again. Another week went by with no action and I called back AHS and they said they found someone who can rebuild the broken part of the oven but it's going to take 4-6 weeks or they'll pay me $285 to replace the wall double oven. (The cheapest I can find is $1600.) They will pay only what it takes to rebuild the broken part. (According to their contract, it should a full replacement). I agree to go with the rebuild since we already waited 5 weeks by that time.
Few days later I called them again to find out when they are going to take the part to send it to repair and they said they're waiting for the technician to call us. Today is June 5th and no action has taken to take the part out of the oven. I called the technician and he said he terminated their contract with AHS a week ago because they're also frustrated with dealing with AHS. I called AHS again (another 1.5 hr) to find out if they assigned service company to take the part, but they said they are still waiting for the previous company to do it. According to AHS the previous company hasn't terminated the contract, even though the service company said they did and they won't come to take part apart. So we are waiting indefinitely for their service (6 weeks now, but no action). Absolutely ridiculous service. They are okay with repairs, but when it comes to replacement they make all kinds of excuses. At this point, if I can give a negative star I will do it.
Original: I have had AHS for about 4 years now and they are normally okay with their service. But this time my oven is broke and technician came and reported that it is not repairable. He said he submitted the diagnostics report to AHS and now almost 4 weeks later not resolution from AHS. I have called multiple times and I get the same excuse that they don't have the diagnostics report. But when I talked to the technician he said he submitted it and he has email response that AHS received it. But AHS won't take action to replace the oven. Very frustrating and not very happy with their service this time.

After being a customer for years I had a duct issue. It’s was sweating in the attic and dripping on the ceiling and creating a hole in the Sheetrock. After they came out it was agreed they would replace or fix the duct if we creating access to it due to a shallow roof. We cut the ceiling away 3ft by 35ft and removed all the blown insulation. They then said I’d have to cut all the trusses so they could wrap the duct rather than replace it. I’m a certified builder. That’s illegal. On tv it says they will fix or replace it. So after I cut my ceiling open they never returned. They quit answering my call too. I tried cancel and block their charges but they keep reoccurring. Beware. I’m in a worse place now than when I started.

The AC was one of the first claims I had a few weeks ago. The technician from Consolidated Mechanical, the company assigned by AHS, was friendly. He just came to make sure everything was working right and correct things before the heat starts. He didn’t find any issues and said the unit was working great. But I was a little annoyed because they gave a four-hour window and he was here right at the very end. Other than that, everything went fine.
I’ve had other people since that visit. I’ve had somebody come look at the pool and somebody fix my fan in the bathroom. So far, everything has been good with AHS. I’m still waiting on the pool one that kinda went through. Now that there’s an issue, we’ll see how it gets covered. The light wasn’t working in the pool. It wasn’t getting electricity to the light. I was told the whole line needs to be replaced. The first guy that came out said it was just the lightbulb and I told him that we replaced this lightbulb three times. He just kept arguing with me that it was the lightbulb.
The guy didn’t even take the light out of the pool and didn’t even look at it. I called American Home Shield and I filed a complaint. I said I wanted a second opinion. The second guys that came over took the light out and went through everything. They were here for probably about 45 minutes and determined that the whole line needed to be replaced. But I haven’t heard back from Home Shield since then. That was Saturday.

Arizona Value Appliance Repair was awesome but we had such a problem with the other company that American Home Shield sent. The prior company sent two technicians who had no clue what they were doing. I opened the fridge and the lights were out and so, we thought that a breaker must’ve tripped. There were other appliances running on that exact same line and we went out and flipped them and everything was fine. But the initial problem of my Sub-Zero was that there was no power. It was not turning on. So we went to our home warranty company, American Home Shield. We called and told them about it and they said they would send a technician out. It took them a few days to get somebody out here but this was when COVID was hitting.
The first technician came out on Saturday morning. A gentleman showed up at my door and he had no mask nor gloves. He looked like he rolled out of bed and had a backpack, and he told me he was here to fix my fridge. He came into my home and he obviously did not know how to even get the panel off. His stuff was all over my counter and he said it was my power and that we had something wrong with the electrical. But he didn’t test it and he left. He was here 25 minutes and it took him longer to figure out how to get the panel off. We heard nothing, so my husband called and asked what was going on. We were told that Nana, the contractor, was gonna order a part. A part of some sort was ordered and the gentleman came back before a part. He just came back because he said it was something with the power. He made two visits and then, a part was shipped here.
This is now my third service call and another gentleman came in. He said that he didn’t know where this part exactly goes. The Sub-Zero is plugged in on the top of the back wall and he brought a power strip thing to check if there was any power to this fridge. It was working and we told him that the power was fine. He said it needed a motherboard. We were just going with it so then, the second gentleman came back again and he had no clue. He said we needed to order a different part, which was when we called AHS again and told them not to send this company out again. We were going into five weeks with no fridge and we needed help.
AHS finally sent this company, Arizona and the gentleman came in with face protection. He didn’t have gloves on but he fixed the problem. He said there was no motherboard on this fridge and all it needed was this, this and this connected. He was here not even 30 minutes and fixed my problem. He was professional and obviously trained on the appliances that he was working with and so I have no complaints. We were very grateful and I got my fridge back.
We almost cancelled our American Home Shield coverage because it was ridiculous. They would not help us to send us somebody new when we said this was our third time. And the fourth time, my husband said that we would cancel and not renew because he was not gonna keep doing this. And we’ve been with AHS for 17 years. We were very dissatisfied with this particular claim with the fridge, not pointing at the second company that came out. AHS has been awesome to us and we’ve done air conditioner repairs as well as my fridge before and they’ve always sent worthy companies to work on our appliances. It was this particular time with that first company that they sent out.
It was frustrating that AHS said they were gonna send a different rep after the second time but still kept with that company. Even after a loyal customer had said that something was not right and were telling them that the guys coming out were not trained, which was my concern. This particular claim did not go well but we’ve always had everything fixed promptly. They have always sent out great people and you get a call before the contractors come. They contract with many appliance companies and we’ve never had a problem with the people they sent out before. It was maybe luck of the draw that we got these repairmen this time.

American Home Shield has been absolutely terrible. I had to threaten them several times with my consumer rights to get them to even deal with my situation. I bought my house in August and when I moved in, I had an operable washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, and refrigerator that came with my house. Those are things that, as long as they were functioning at the time the policy was written, my home warranty would cover for any repair or replacement.
After I moved into my house, I noticed that my washing machine would keep running and it would never start agitating. American Home Shield kept sending a guy from Rick's Appliances in Bakersville who was completely incompetent. I kept having to follow up with American Home Shield and the guy kept trying to change things. Those were all on separate occasions with time in between. During that time, I had a baby and was admitted to the hospital and there were holidays. The guy even cut his finger so he wasn't available for two months. I kept calling him and calling Home Shield, and then ultimately, we got to the new year and they tried to tell me it was too late, that I was outside of the timeline for coverage for my claim and that I would have to pay a new $75 fee. The original time that I made the initial complaint had been some time but that was only because they haven't been able to resolve the issue.
Eventually, they had to open a whole new claim for my dishwasher. The door of it was swinging down dangerously. It would flop right down and then the door wouldn't shut on the soap dish. Home Shield sent that same guy from Rick's Appliances and first, the soap dish that he replaced wouldn't open on its own. Then he had to come back and replace the springs on my door and then my dishwasher wouldn't shut anymore after that. So I was not able to use my dishwasher for several months. Then my use of my washing machine and dryer have been spotty sometimes. So it was a big mess.
It was not until Home Shield started sending a new person that it started getting better. They opened a new claim for my dishwasher, didn't charge me the $75 fee and got someone else out there. And that guy fixed the dishwasher on the first visit. Then I had to open a new claim for the washing machine myself and the guy who showed up was from a new company, which I was happy to see. I hadn’t even finished the sentence telling him what the issue was and he already knew what the problem was. And he fixed it. It took him about 10 minutes and he was gone. My washing machine has been working fine ever since.
As a new mom, I just wanted my stuff to work. My baby is seven months now but I just finally got the issue with the washing machine resolved. I was even at the point of going, "You know what? Forget it. I'm just gonna go buy a new washer myself." But then I thought about it. This was what the insurance is for and sure enough, when we got it right and sent a new person, the problem got fixed. It only took 10 minutes of a competent person's time to fix the problem that it took me months of calling and time on the phone to get someone out and provide the benefit that I pay for.
I know my stuff was covered and I was getting the runaround with a brand-new baby and a new job. It was too much to handle. Having to call back and go back through the loop is where the bad service came in from American Home Shield. It was kinda frustrating because they would send me back to a low-level person to whom I'd have to explain the history of my claim all over again. I'd have to tell them to view the call history. Meanwhile, I was spending 30 to 45 minutes on the phone while they were reviewing the history. So I started calling and asking for a supervisor.
The reps wanted to provide good service but they were kinda reading a script. When something is ongoing and they’re having an issue with one of their contractors, it's important for a supervisor to handle that, especially if the customer is following up repeatedly. It was just a headache. Plus when I kept calling and the problem kept not being fixed, Home Shield should've maybe tried to send a new contractor. Instead, they had me dealing with this guy at Rick's Appliances for several months and I kept having to call back. I would never recommend American Home Shield to anybody based off of my experience. I hope American Home Shield will change its policy so that people don't go through what I went through.
Candace,

We’ve had American Home Shield for years in our home that we sold. Then, we bought it for our condominium which we’re in now. It saves you from the disastrous bills that can occur when your air conditioner goes out. It’s kinda like an insurance policy against a large cost item. There was a time when I lived in my home on Hedge Lake and they contracted with a pool supply company that I was not very happy with. Eventually, AHS went to Tropical Pools & Spas and I had real good luck with them. Here at the condo and with this most recent problem on the air conditioning, the contractor did a great job.
The air conditioner stopped blowing cold air and it wouldn’t cool the condominium anymore. We made the call to American Home Shield and the technician who came out was good, knowledgeable and let us know what he was doing. Also, he was cordial. This was during the initial phases of the COVID-19 lockdown, and those guys were very respectful of distance, and did all the things right. It did take three weeks to fix the AC, which is a relatively long period of time, but we were never really put out because the weather was so pretty.

It was all done in a timely, professional and courteous way.
Overall, for the years that I’ve been with American Home Shield, it’s been hit and miss. But it hasn’t been American Home Shield that’s been problematic. They’ve always followed through with the request. But sometimes, some of the issues have been with the people that do the work. Sometimes, folks will come out that are less than stellar. As soon as the claim was submitted, I was notified who the claim was going to and who to be in contact with, and that they'd be in contact with me within 24 hours or I could reach out to them. So it was very clear and concise. The first contractor was not able to fix the ice maker issue. They said they weren't specialists with the Frigidaire fridge. My claim got put back into Mr. Appliance and they came out, analyzed it, ordered a part, and fixed it within a week. They were awesome. A lady called me, introduced herself, asked initial questions and then when the tech was coming out, I got texted alerts of his time of arrival and his photo ID. I was very comfortable with that.
I've had two claims in two years. American Home Shield has been very prompt and efficient in managing both those claims. Expectations were laid out upfront and they exceeded those expectations. Both issues were addressed and fixed in a timely manner. They were very communicative in the expectations and the service provided. My experience was seamless. I highly recommend them.

My handyman had tightened the valve up three times in the past and Miguel said, "I have to tighten it up." I said, "Okay. It's gonna leak and it has been for a long time. It's going to the foundation." But he goes, "No. I cannot change the part." I said, "This is like 60 years old. My handyman already tightened it. He's pretty good." He goes, "No, there is a difference. I'm a licensed contractor. Handymen cannot do a good job as I do." He said to change this if I wanna do this job, but it's gonna take a long time. I'm not gonna do that. He was very unethical
I looked at his truck and saw his child and wife was with him. I'm not sure if they're supposed to bring in them to the job site. Something is gonna take three hours, and having them in the car had a lot to do with his decision-making. And in a few months, weeks, or days, I'm gonna be calling and asking for a repair based on the history I have with that faulty valve. I should let someone know.
Also, when I had a plumber last time with AHS and I had this new issue, I asked for Max, the same old plumber. He's been to my house three times, from a different company. But the problem is, AHS said I cannot request. I said, "He knows us, we know him, he did a great job before, so let's repeat him." But they said, "No. You get a new person. You don't get what you ask for." To me, that did not make any sense at all. It was a rep in the Philippines sitting there and answering the phone. Maybe I should have asked for a supervisor.

I like American Home Shield. They came and put the sockets in for me, and then they came and got the ceiling fan up. The only thing I’m lacking out is my oven and my dishwasher. They still don’t have the parts of the oven. They already came out and looked at it. They said it got lost. I talked to a lady to see if it had come in. She said she's on office break. I need my oven as I cook now at home. Other than that, I got a stovetop, all that's put in. I tell people that AHS is good.

My claim with American Home Shield was good and I had no problem submitting a claim. But the tech said he could not get under the sink because of the cabinet. He was not able to resolve the issue for the one in the kitchen sink, but the toilet was fixed. The contractor was good. But I wish American Home Shield can have more ways to fix a problem like the plumbing under the cabinet which is supposed to be part of the issue because the part is under the cabinet.

My dishwasher went out and I didn't know if it was the switch that was controlling it or the dishwasher. The tech fixed it and it only took a few minutes. It didn’t feel cool in the house so, I looked at the thermostat. I had it set at 74 but it was at 78. So, something was wrong with the AC. I could feel from where the air comes out that it was not cool air. I called in a work order late at night at 11:00 and the contractor came not the next day, but the day after. They said it was a capacitor. It’s a small part that needed to be fixed on the fan. They did that and then, they left. It was quick and the AC started cooling. It’s staying at the 74 that I have it set and we haven’t had any issues since.
Submitting the claim was awesome. I’ve had American Home Shield for a while now so, it’s easy. You call, tell them what’s going on and then, they usually get back with you quickly. I like that with American Home Shield, they would send you and tell you who the vendor’s gonna be. Then, I always call because sometimes, the vendors, depending on who they are, may not contact you right away or take a couple of days to contact you. I don’t wanna wait especially if it’s like the AC unit in San Antonio, Texas because it’s too hot to be here without AC. I usually call the next morning and then, they seem to get the ball rolling a little faster from the vendor’s side.
We’ve been in this house for seven years and we’ve been with AHS all of those years. When you buy a house, you get it automatically from the seller in the first six months. Then, I had it too in the house we lived in in Austin and I kept it. So, probably on and off, we’ve been with them for 12 years. AHS is great and I love being a part of it. It’s a great service to have. If something major happens, it’s not gonna cost you an arm and leg. Although it could. Last year, we had the coil go out on the AC unit and we had to pay for that part of it but if it’s minor stuff, you have peace of mind to a degree on knowing that my 60 bucks a month is gonna go to help protect and insure some peace of mind for me. So, I’ve always used it.

We had our AC repaired back in September. However, when the contractors repaired the AC, they didn't tighten up the screw so it was leaking. A second company called RR HVAC was sent by AHS and they fixed our issue. It sucked that we had to pay for Freon again when a contractor just replaced it less than a year ago. Plus, the people who came out from RR HVAC couldn't guarantee if the issue was a leak or a screw was just loose. AHS and their contractors should look into things properly. Still, RR HVAC was great for us.

I have been with AHS for three years now and it seemed very hard to get claims resolved last year. I had a stove and a microwave, and the microwave came with the wrong size. It didn't fit. When I had trouble with the ice maker the contractor was terrible and they came out a couple of times. The way that it was handled was a little bit unprofessional. And I had to turn the whole thing off so it would defrost. But the way they explained and handled it made me not want to see them again. There were some other issues that American Home Shield needed to answer so I went to my rep and she took care of everything. For my recent claim with the garbage disposal, however, ASAP was wonderful. The tech was very professional and a very nice young man. The AHS rep was wonderful as well. Because of her I had a couple of friends get American Home Shield.

I decided I didn’t want to replace it and the gas company recommended that I not get it fixed. AHS responded quickly and got someone out here because my problem was serious.
I got American Home Shield over a referral from a girlfriend, and when I called in and signed up, they said that they were gonna send both of us gift cards, which we haven’t received. When I called to check on the status of both my claim and the gift card, the young lady told me we needed to go through Refer A Friend, and so I had my friend do that. The tech that came out for our furnace was very, very respectful. I loved the fact he took time in his truck before he even came out. He came out with a mask, glove, and had boots in his hands to put on because he was on his shoes if he was going to go into the house. Our furnace is down in the cellar, which is an outside access, so it was much easier in that realm. It was a very easy process to take place, specifically under these conditions.
It wasn't an emergency since it's warm out. I waited until they had listed everything in Wisconsin before I made the claim. I realized I would the blower to be working and the thermostat to be working in order to use the AC, which is going right now and it’s working quite nicely. I went online and clicked on whatever buttons I’m supposed to click on to do the claim and then they charged me the 100 bucks. I got an email saying it was gonna happen and that they’ve got the claim, and then I get a phone call from the local tradesmen who was gonna come. It was all scheduled. I’ve only done two claims with American Home Shield, and both times, it went very easily and very well. Both times, everybody worked until it was working. The two guys that have come to my house have been very, very kind. Respect and kindness is important in this job, specifically when you’re doing something through a third-party vendor.
I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield. Living in a 100-year-plus house, it is a huge security blanket. One of the things that tripped me into getting American Home Shield was that I had to replace my hot water heater to the tune of $2,500. But if I had had my account with them, it would have been $100 rather than a very expensive full replacement.

It's been great with AHS. I've had a few jobs done through them and every job has gotten corrected. I had one repeat, which was my refrigerator. We heard about home warranties but we never thought much about it. Then we got our dryer repaired for 300 and some odd dollars. My daughter in law said they have been with Home Shield for years and that they would do anything for 75. They have the plan where they pay a little more monthly and they pay $75 for a call. We got the warranty and we had been very satisfied. We pay 39.95 a month and then $100 a call which is fine.
The contractors have been good. I don't get things done instantly though. Sometimes, they have to go get parts and they can't get it. They had to replace the water heater and they went to pick it up but it wasn't available so they had to reschedule that. They're coming out today to replace it. We also had a contractor who fixed our air conditioning. When they first got it going, it worked okay for a few days. But then, it hasn't been working and it hasn't been used for about three years. It doesn't get cold air and they may have to put some refrigerant gas in there. The air conditioning people are coming out today between 12:00 and 4:00 to fix it and get it doing so it cools down the house.

Buyer beware. It is a fact that if you cancel service with this company for any reason, they will claim that you never cancelled and will continue to bill you. I cancelled my credit card just to get away from them so they then sent me to collections for months that the warranty was not active due to me canceling. Read the many reviews about how they unfairly deny claims and lie. They are in business only to steal from consumers by having them pay for warranties that they can never really use. I filed a complaint with the BBB and they responded to that with lies also. To me its not about the $150 they are trying to now steal, its the principle that they should not be lying and stealing from consumers.

But he couldn’t unhook the toilet because it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. I don’t know how they are going to put a seal on it if you don’t unloosen the toilet from the floor. I called a plumber and he came out the next day, took care of the problem in 10 minutes.
Recently, it's been difficult to call in for claims. I don’t know if it’s because of the virus or not because everywhere I call, I’m having to wait a long time. They sent True Vine Appliance Repair who came right on time and was exceptional. The second time, the owner of the company came and he was the one who told me about the igniter and that he would replace the part if it seemed to be necessary, so he was very helpful.
The igniter is still having trouble but he told me that it might. I just have to work with it because it takes a few seconds for the flame to come up which means there are gasses escaping. But then, turning it all the way low and pushing it makes it come on. He told me that if that did not correct itself after what he had done, then I should call him back. Eventually my wife said that we were tired of having stuff done on it and told them to stop coming for service calls if we need a new unit. Sure enough, the techs agreed that we needed a new refrigerator. We ended up getting one and it was good timing. Still, the company I had all these stipulations. One of the stipulations was that I have to get my HVAC serviced twice a year to be able to have any claims approved. Plus, the warranty company said they wouldn't renew our policy because we had too many claims.

Now, if I call with a reasonable request, they're pretty responsive. Plus the contractors we've had through them have been very good. Most recently, AHS's contractor, DMV Pro Tech, came out to do my dishwasher. They did a good job.

Air Magic was great. They came out when the AC unit stopped working. I had called and American Home Shield set that claim right up. Everything was good. Then we got in touch with the contractor and we set the schedule up with them. They called us pretty quickly. The first time they came out, they fixed the one thing that had gone wrong. But the fan ended up getting broken a day later. The cold air stopped blowing again and they had to come back. I had to submit a request based on the same claim and they fixed the fan. It took a couple days but it wasn't that bad. As far as the heat, it was uncomfortable but they did it as fast as they could. They came out and fixed the fan and I called twice to follow up but everything has been okay since then. The AC has been working so I'm happy with that. It's really good having American Home Shield.

We had two faucets that were not working properly. So, AZ Remodeling & Plumbing replaced the temperature gauges on the top of the sink in both bathrooms. Then, we also had a toilet that was running where they came in for and installed a new piece on. We had an electrician from a completely different vendor come as well and that was a good experience. Everything has run very smoothly with all the contractors. Submitting claims to American Home Shield has always been very easy, too. The online method is ideal -- it is very simple and to the point. It is user-friendly, so I appreciate that.

The air conditioner was blowing the breaker. There were several problems and it turned out to be a bad compressor. It's an old HVAC unit, so I finally replaced it. I had Total Comfort HVAC replace the whole unit. It took them a week. They started on a Monday doing the tear out. They also replaced all of my ducts. That was something I’ve been putting off. I had to make a decision to replace the unit was because the compressor was one of the major repairs AHS doesn’t cover much on. But they've been great with all those repairs and nursing this unit long up until now. It just happened to be one where it was still gonna cost at least $1,500 out of my own pocket. It was not smart to putting my money into that unit.

I'm very happy with AHS. I have 2 really good experiences with them. They've been fast and efficient. They check out with me and the last 2 people that came out were awesome. They fixed the issue right away. With my first experience, it seemed like it was weird because the first person came, looked at the issue, and said he couldn't do anything. So, I called in to AHS and they said, "Don't worry. We’ll send a different plumbing company to come check it out and see if we could get a second opinion. You’re not gonna get the service charge." They came out, fixed the issue in 20 minutes, and it was awesome. The last claim was for my upper kitchen faucet. I needed that changed ‘cause it was squeaking and not working well. I had a faucet ready and it got changed. It was perfect.

I had a leak in my shower, the toilet was making noise and the sinks were leaking in the kitchen. The contractor came when they said they were gonna come and they called ahead. All the issues were resolved except for the sink where the base of the faucet was leaking. They also came to check the hot water heater. The guy said that the water heater seemed fine but he had to up the volume of the heat. The water was still running cold even with that so I knew it was past the time to call them but I had to test the water and see if the water was still cold. He went outside and looked for leaks where the water runs outside. He checked that and that was okay.
I was checking the water and when I turned it on, I noticed that it didn’t turn hot right away and I had to wait. So, I was wasting water. When I called them back, they said that it was another $80.44 charge because they already closed out the claim. Because of the things that I had going on, I was charged that on the 5th, the 7th, and twice on the 27th. I told them that I’ve been a customer with American Home Shield for a long time and the bill should at least be cut in half. They told me I had to speak to a manager, which I requested. I held on for quite some time to no avail and I wound up hanging up. So, I’m thinking about taking my business somewhere else.
The contractors came and did what they could especially Eric, who was the spearhead in the job taking care of all what needed to be done. He was very cordial, respectful, on time and let me know what was going on throughout because it was all over my house and I have four great grandkids here to see after. So, going back-and-forth, they did a good job.
When I called for the condenser in my air condition system, the same thing happened. The lady said that they already closed out the work order. I should’ve left that alone or paid $80.44 again. So, I told the lady that I was gonna start looking for somebody else because I felt that that was very unfair. I didn’t care if it was closed out. The guy said that he didn’t do ductwork, so I have to call back. I called back AHS and the lady said that they would have to see about it. I was on the phone two days in a row trying to get them on the phone and every time I called, they just kept me on hold.
The door of the filter at the bottom of the refrigerator, which is for the ice and the water that runs, keeps coming open. So, that was something else that was added on. So, I said to the guy that I needed a new refrigerator. When I called American Home Shield, the woman told me that they have to go back to the contract and see what they say. She said that it depends on the contractor who was coming the next day tomorrow to do the repairs. I said that I needed an updated refrigerator and that I’ve been using one for six years. She asked how many times the contractor has come. I told her it was the second time that the person was here. I asked if that didn’t qualify me for a new refrigerator. She said that they would have to go back to the contractor. She never came back to me.
My washing machine is like somebody is in my washing machine and this was the second time they came for the washing machine. She said that they would have to go back to the contractor and go by what they said. In the meantime, I’m making a payment to AHS every month of almost $80. Plus, I have a rental property that they service as well. So, it was good money being passed on to bad. I don’t feel satisfied with what AHS is doing. I’ve been with them since 2015, so I have a history with them, and I have to keep both my homes covered.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

I noticed that my AC wasn't cooling like it should. Normally every spring and fall, they have the tune-up. I usually just go ahead and do those just to make sure everything's in proper order, but noticed that they didn't have that. So, I went ahead and made a claim online. I got texts from the contractors every step of the way. They were on time and I always love when companies can text you their ETA. That always makes it nice with three kids and four dogs to put up and get cleared out of the way.
The tech came, and with everything going on with the virus, he was all prepared with face mask. He didn't find anything wrong with the AC. He just checked the Freon. He didn't really look in the unit. Usually, when they've done the check-up, they opened it up and looked at all the pieces. He suggested that I get the coils cleaned and I paid an additional $80 to the company for them to go ahead and clean the coils. The AC is an older unit but I have noticed that it's getting cooler though it just takes longer. I'm maintaining it and I'm doing everything I can. As a Realtor I would always add AHS onto our contract for my clients and I've always maintained it as a peace of mind.

He had to come back for the faucet because I had to get a new one. American Home Shield's response time was excellent. I put the claim in on a Sunday and the technician came out on a Monday. I put in a service request to have my washer fixed a month ago. The contractor came to my residence and concluded the part they needed to fix it is no longer made. A week goes by and I don't hear anything from American Home Shield or the contractor. I contacted the contractor and they said they contacted AHS and told them the situation. Two weeks, later AHS tells my service request has been "fulfilled." I call AHS again because my request has NOT been fulfilled because my washer is STILL BROKEN.
Over the course or 2 weeks, I have called AHS 4 TIMES to have my problem deferred to someone else and not solved. Representatives have said they need the contractor to redo their report so that my washer can be fixed, but absolutely no one has made an effort to do that. The last representative I was on the phone with HUNG UP ON ME AFTER BEING ON HOLD FOR 1 HOUR. My washing machine is still broken and that is the only thing I want to be addressed. If you all can't do that give me back my $100 for the service request and I'll take my business elsewhere.

Since posting my review on Consumer Affairs, a representative from American Home Shield, Stacy **, contacted me about my frustrations and anger concerning a job request I initiated almost three months ago. First, she PM me through Consumer Affairs, apologized, and gave me her contact information to personally assist me with my unresolved issue with AHS. I have to be honest, I believed Stacy was going to make a pathetic, sluggish attempt to assuage my experience and current situation. Boy was I surprisingly, but happily, wrong!
Stacy made several attempts to contact me through email and by phone. She LISTENED to me. She HEARD me. But most of all, she HELPED me. Stacy did not make excuses. What she did do was fix my problem with her company. My service request from three months ago has been resolved. Stacy setup for a technician from AV HAWAIIAN POOL AND SPA to assess my problem with my pool filter yesterday (5/28/2020). He actually evaluated what was wrong, he brought many pool parts he might need, and he FIXED my pool' filter...ALL IN ONE DAY! Thank you, Stacy!
Original Review: May 20, 2020
I made an online service request through my home warranty, American Home Shield, for my pool filter on 06 March 2020. AHS sent a contractor from Turner Electrical and Lighting Inc. to my home to assess the problem. He said he needed to order a part to fix my pool filter. It is now 20 May 2020. My weekly pool service technician warned me about possible algae growth on the pool cartridges in the pool filter since the pool filter has not run since March. My pool guy also said algae will start growing in the pool water because the weather is getting warmer.
I have tried contacting AHS on several occasions. However, on 18 May 2020, is the one day that clearly revealed to me the total lack of professionalism and courtesy from the AHS customer service department. I called AHS customer service 6 times. The first five times my call was dropped as I waited for customer service. The 6th time, I actually spoke to someone, but she kept me on hold for 1 hour 48 minutes! Then all of a sudden, the "elevator music" cuts off. I'm still waiting! No one came back to help me, so I hung up. Once again, AMERICAN HOME SHIELD, you charge me monthly to use your service! You charge me a service fee to send someone to assess my problem! Yet you DO NOT take responsibility when YOU are at fault. You just hide behind your inept customer service department.
I apologize for the inconvenience. My name is Stacy & I've just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

What a scam. Had the service for 12 mos with no service calls. At the end of 12 mos they jacked up our rates by 45% on the next yearly contract! Took 30 mins to reach customer service to cancel (can't do it online). They gave the excuse that due to increased service calls from Covid 19 they have to raise the rates. I could have accepted a modest 5-10% increase and would have probably let it go, but 45% and using the pandemic as an excuse! This is despicable! I'm so glad we didn't have to use their service, if this how they do business, it would most likely have been a nightmare. At some point enough is enough.

When I used to submit claims to American Home Shield by phone, it was super aggravating. Their customer service people aren't very helpful. Because I didn't wanna wait on hold, I went online to submit a claim and that was a lot easier. Everything happened quicker and there was no breakdown in communication. However, they tried to say my problem wasn't qualified under their warranty when my hot tub was having issues. That time, I had to have a second contractor come out and look at the issue.
The process was frustrating because the first contractor AHS sent wasn't great at communicating. They wouldn't call back or answer the phone. Still, the second contractor sent was a lot better about it. But then, they said it would take six weeks for them to get approval to do the job. There is always a delay with AHS. One time my pilot light for my water heater went out. It turned out that there was a little contraction in the heater that keeps the light going and it wasn't working. So, I would have to relight it so that I would have hot water. AHS's contractors would then say the heater works fine as it was lit.
It was very time consuming and contractors had to come out several times. Most recently, my pool was bubbling from one of the filters. I submitted a claim and AHS sent Xact Pool & Spa to service the claim. It turned out that the issue was something AHS and its contractor don't fix. The problem wasn't impacting the pool so it was fine. Still, there are a lot of exclusions in their coverage.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I still don’t believe why it’s common for a machine. When I first moved here three years ago, there was no noise, ever. When they first came out to repair it, that noise initially stopped, but then it started again. To me, a refrigerator should not have it. The truth is there’s only a certain amount of days left before this warranty is up. I definitely don’t wanna pay for somebody to come out a second time for the same reason.

I was having issues with my dishwasher. I called American Home Shield and their rep was fine. Sears was our designated contractor and three weeks ago, someone from there came out. I felt good with this last contractor. He explained things to me and I was very comfortable with him. I saw him replace something and put a brand-new part on it. The detergent and rinse, where you put that at in the door, is not working. But my dishwasher is still acting up and this started on Sunday.
Having a home warranty is very important. We're in the military and we move. I moved from Augusta, Georgia to here. I've had American Home Shield for at least 15 years and not in the same town. Lately, I haven’t been comfortable with them at all and I was thinking about changing. I even have the information to change before they gave me Sears to come out. Sears would never come out when they say they would. And they keep calling saying they were gonna call me. This time when Sears came out, it took me three weeks to get a heating element for my dryer and I was very upset because that calls for going to a washer-dryer. The first time, I went to my sister’s house but I wasn’t gonna overdo my welcome. The last couple of times before Sears came out, was not a good time for me. If you say you're gonna do something, I expect you to do it.
I kept calling back and my daughter called as well. She said, "What are you gonna do about this? My mother’s 70 years old and she’s been taking them to the dryer, and she’s been waiting over three weeks.” I was told I was gonna be given half off but that never happened. If I’m unsatisfied with something, I let it go and not say anything. They have more out there to choose from. I’ve called American Home Shield and told them. They acted like they took it down and they were gonna do something. But nothing ever happened.

We’ve had problems with the well and this was the second time. American Home Shield sent out a tech but when he came out, he said it was an electrical problem. It turned out that he was a plumber and not an electrician. And it had to be another contact and another appointment scheduled for somebody else to come out. In this case, the water went out on Thursday night, and when I called in to get an electrician to come, I was told that the electrician wouldn’t come until Monday.
There were two homes that operate off that well, so there was gonna be two homes without water for four days. And the lady told me to give them about 24 to 48 hours in business days. But by that time, it was the weekend, so it’d be more than that. So, I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said that it was an emergency. So, they got somebody out. He was able to come on Saturday and get it fixed. But if I hadn’t asked to go up the chain of command, those homes would have been without water from Thursday to sometime in Monday. Somebody should know about emergency cases.
Also, if you happen to go down in a well, you don't wanna have to be doing that too much. And the well has this great big heavy concrete slab that’s on the top of it, so they were able to get that off because they went down. There’s a breaker in there and they went down to try to flip it first just to see if it was there. But it was actually the breaker on the pole that was the problem, so they had to take that off. And they just left it off. But if it had been for the whole weekend, they would have had to put it back. So, if the plumber they sent was also able to do electrical work.
Other than that, I’ve always been pleased with working with AHS. When I bought my house in Greencastle, I got it. And when we bought the house in Hedgesville, we chose the contract with them and we’ve always been happy with it. The peace of mind is worth it for me, especially in the early days. It’s like if your money’s tight and your refrigerator goes, where would you find $1000, $1200 to buy a new refrigerator?

Initially when we turned our stove on, it would come on for a minute, and then it would shut off. And then occasionally, it would come on, and there would just be no heat. So, it’s like it wasn’t warming up at first. It should not have done that with the gauge we had it on. The first gentleman came out, he tested it, and he said he thought the ignition was going out. They replaced the igniter within two days. We used it over the weekend and the stove wouldn’t turn on. It did work when the first gentleman came out and did the igniter. He turned it on, it lit up, he made it go up to the temperature gauge, and it was fine. I said, “Okay, great. We’re in business.” But after that, my daughter went to use it, she turned it on and it made the noise and it shut off.
She turned it on again, and it just made this funky noise and it would shut off. So, I called right back. This was within a span of just a couple of days. It wasn’t even a week that the first guy had come out. When I called, the other gentleman came out, and he checked it. He said he thought it was something with the computer. So, he came out and did whatever he needed to do. We’ve used it three times since, and it seemed to be fine. So, what this guy did the last time corrected the problem. The stove warmed up to the temperature that it was supposed to go up to. The guys that came out were super professional. They were very timely. I have had claims in the past that I thought was kinda silly. This time, I was 100% pleased with American Home Shield. Even in the pandemic and with the short staff, I really thought the overall experience was pretty good.

My mom has used American Home Shield and she had a lot of positive experiences. So, she recommended it to us. When I have a claim, I submit it online and the process has been easy. So far, everybody that they sent out had been very nice and recently, they sent out Greenway Home Services for my refrigerator and my dishwasher. They replaced my refrigerator but I’m still waiting for them to fix my dishwasher. They had to order parts and they came back, then they had to order another part. So now, I’m waiting. I also wish Greenway could make their appointments a little closer and not so far in advance because they’re two weeks out. But that’s probably normal and I’m just impatient. Other than that, I have no issues.

Direct Appliance did well. The contractor understood the problem in our refrigerator. He checked it out and fixed it. We had to empty the freezer and he finished off quickly -- the repair was done within an hour. We opened the back and he was in and out through the back door. I wasn’t concerned with his lack of space to put my stuff in, but everything went well. He was good. Overall, I’m very pleased with American Home Shield because I’ve used them in the past. Everything has been well.

We've been satisfied with American Home Shield. I really like being able to go online and submit claims, and not having to call and be on hold. It seems quicker. The plumbers, electricians and all the people that responded had been very nice and they followed up pretty quickly. Generally, their contractors are local and I usually never have to wait that long except when they have to order a part.
We had a plumber from Lake Plumbing came out and fixed our problem. Then our central vac went out and we had Jaeger Electric. Their tech said he had to order the part. Then I got the impression that American Home Shield thought the order was complete because of a text I got from them, but it wasn't completed yet. I've been trying to communicate with the tech and we're still waiting for him to come back and replace the motor. I was told that the part was supposed was come on Monday which was a holiday. I just sent the tech an email again and asked him what was going on.

It's pretty important having a warranty. I have AHS for a rental property and the coverage I've gotten from them is very good. I did a claim online for an electric issue and Always Open & Shut Garage Door came out. Everything went fine and the issue was repaired. I haven't heard any complaints from the tenants.

I like to get my house sprayed a couple times a year. I was looking on the website and I saw that AHS offered a $75 spray. So I called them and Terminix did a good job. I had a few ants around the yard and the techs were pretty good. As last time, they have with them two termite baits for me because they noticed I didn’t have a termite guard. So they brought that to my attention and put that up for me. Everything worked out pretty good. I had a claim for the air conditioner before and that also worked out well. It was fixed. I've had AHS for almost two years and it's good to the peace of mind that you can get some stuff fixed when it breaks down in your house. Everything is going pretty good on my end. Keep up the good work, AHS.

We had a leak in the shower. We had requested somebody that knew the specific manufacturer of our showerheads, figuring in the past and just by experience that sometimes, people show up then they say they really didn't know those things. And that was what happened so we asked for somebody that knew the equipment. American Home Shield said they were sending somebody out. That was very timely.
The tech from a previous company, before Nutex Mechanical, was extremely nice but he said we needed to find somebody that knew this equipment. We did round two. American Home Shield quickly got somebody else out so that wasn’t a problem. But, again, the guy goes, “No, we really don’t work on these.” He got it done though although it took him an extra period of time.
The service could have been knocked out in one trip. Instead, it took three. There is a cost to American Home Shield and to my sanity. There's also the cost for those businesses having to come out. They knew from taking pictures what was wrong. But everybody has to make their own assessment from their own company so I get that. I’m reasonable. The showerheads we had were old and they were like jets. I went out to Home Depot and did it myself. The tech fixed what was behind the wall because I didn’t wanna touch it. I think those were covered. I sent Home Shield a note but they never responded. I’m just moving on. There are other important things to do.
We bought this property in 2014 and we've had American Home Shield on it since the summer of 2014. We also had the home warranty for the previous properties that we had. Sometimes, the problem the home warranty has is that a lot of the people that partner with them are partnered with them to generate and cultivate a churn business. The techs are never happy to come out because they are paid a limit so they look for opportunities. To me, that is a concern overall because you could have a mechanic that turns your brake job into a brake replacement versus just brake pads. My concern is monitoring that. I don’t know how American Home Shield does that. I've reported my concern to them.
Otherwise, I’ve had good experiences with the techs although I’ve also had some very bad experiences with people that have come out and some have just plain said things like, “We’re only doing this because we hope you call us next time you actually need work done.” That experience is not good for them and it’s not good for anybody that has the warranty. Unfortunately, I’ve had so many different properties. You can kinda see and smell things. I’m not a technical person but you kinda get a feel for stuff like that. But the last couple of people that came out were extremely professional and nice.
As far as American Home Shield, they are more processing or transactional. If I call you them, they just wanna know it’s a shower, “Okay, fine,” then click. This is as opposed to, “My shower’s a Kohler system. I need somebody that’s familiar with Kohler, the product.” I did that and it didn’t happen. I just got the first person. I shouldn’t have to do anything more than what I did. I then had to spend time explaining, “This is Kohler. This is what’s happening,” to two different techs in two different companies. That’s the thing. If it's an air conditioner, they should wanna know the type of air conditioner, if it’s within the unit in the attic or outside, and more specifics.
In this case with our shower, it got done and it works great. The head that I bought and put on is perfectly fine. The technicians were wonderful as far as people and very professional and communicative. But it should have been one person. And they also had to order the parts because they didn't really work with Kohler in their warehouse so they had to order directly from Kohler. That could have been done before those companies came in and out. But I know they have to come out and assess and not take my word for it. I don’t know what my other option is. In some cases, I just pay out-of-pocket directly to a company because I found a company that I love but they are not aligned with American Home Shield.
American Home Shield has helped us when we called, emailed, and submitted orders. They’ve gotten people out here. But we want good people to come out and not look for other opportunities and say we really need to change something. For example, I had an air conditioner leak and I had this happen before at other homes. I know that contractors can weld in certain spots and it’s a fix then they put new coolant in. A lot of times, they’ll just first start trying to sell you on a new air conditioner. Instead of a couple of hundred dollars fix, it’s a $15,000 sales pitch. I’m used to that and I get why they’re doing it.
But I just need it fixed. I’m not in the market to buy a new $15,000 air conditioning unit when it doesn’t need to be replaced. That’s the biggest culture problem. But as far as transactionally getting somebody out here quickly that's aligned to American Home Shield, they hit me for a hundred bucks and the people are out here. That happens like lightning speed so that’s good.
I tried to talk to American Home Shield when I get a live person but on the other end of the phone, they are just razer-focused to do the quickest cost-effective transactional point A to point B. They’re not gonna call somebody to ask if they have experience with Kohler systems. I wish it was different. I don’t think I can get that from any other company either though. I’ve had other people that had other home warranty companies that weren’t happy at all.
It’s kinda like going to an attorney. No one’s every happy even if you win. I understand they’ve done some great things for us in the sense that if something was majorly damaged and it was covered under warranty, then that’s the blessing that you’re paying every month for. That’s what you have that type of insurance for. In those cases, the home warranty works fine. But if another company comes along that you don’t have to do those things, I would love to hear it. They would probably have great success in the market.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. If your issue is unresolved, please contact us for assistance. We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

American Home Shield could be more transparent in what’s covered before we pay the $75. I had a situation to where I paid that but the plumber couldn’t fix the problem. To be able to do so, it didn’t fall under the warranty. I was out $75 bucks. But other than that, I’m glad I have AHS. I’m just living in this house now going three years and they're amazing with a number of things. Gilmore’s Home Solutions came out for a heating element in my dryer. I paid the $75 required for service, they came out and fixed it. The dryer is a very simple machine. You just basically got a belt and a heating element. They asked for the model number so that they could come prepared. The tech had a heating element, and that was it. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

After making a claim for a plumbing issue, American Home Shield sent out Tom Melton Plumbing. The scheduling was really quick but I didn't like the range. They gave a 12-hour window when the tech would be here. Thankfully, I'm laid off right now. They told me that the tech would call me 15 minutes before he was here, which he did, and that was fine. If I needed to go anywhere, I could take off and not have to worry about it. The guy fixed the leak I had on my sink and he also replaced something. I felt fine about him. He resolved the issue in under an hour. Since the repair, I haven't noticed any other issues.
This is my first home purchase and having the home warranty is kinda paying off because my HVAC unit is not cooling properly. I just set up an appointment for an HVAC guy to come out. Also, once I started doing repairs around here it was like the previous home owners were idiots. Every new homeowner may think that. They had the hoses of the washer backwards. I did about two or three loads and I notice that the water coming out of there was warm which was stupid. It's not supposed to be hot when it's cold. For the first year, a home warranty would be a good idea. American Home Shield should keep up the good work.

My dishwasher appeared to have a leak one time and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. They sent Sears to service my request and the tech who came did a good job. He took the bottom piece of the dishwasher off and looked underneath to make sure there were no leaks. The dishwasher had overflowed because of the soap buildup inside the tub. He gave me good advice on how to keep the soap from building up in the dishwasher. I have always rinsed dishes off and he told me not to do that. I'm glad I have my AHS warranty.

I had a light that was out over in the dining area. It was one of the dimmer lights and it had been crackling for a while, so the electrician from #1 R & R Electrical Allstar came out and took that one off. He told me that the dimmer was bad. He reconnected it, and then he put in a new upgraded type dimmer. So, I was pleased with that. He made the fix the day he came out. He changed everything out, and I have been fine. I’m a schoolteacher, so I have been working from home. And that particular light was the main light that I needed. It has been a blessing since that has been back on.
I, however, was a little concerned because I have a girlfriend who talked me into getting a policy and she told me that her on-call is only $75, but it seems that mine is $100 -- I thought I would be paying the same thing she paid. That part threw me off and caused me to wait a day or two to do it, speak to her and confirm with her how much she paid compared to what I paid. They should be consistent. But, the process over the computer was easy. I’ve also already told a couple of family members about my policy.

DNJ Services, one of their contractors came the Tuesday after the Friday I called. Their tech was a top professional. He got right to fixing the issue. Things have been well since then. I've had AHS since I've owned my house and that's been 19 years. It has been worth it for me. I've had things that I had to get done. This warranty has definitely beaten having to go into my pocket. I pay a monthly bill and I don't use it all the time but it has been beneficial during the many times that I've needed it.

The kitchen sink stops up, and then it unloads into the bathtub. The guy from Triple S Plumbing was delightful. He was wearing his mask and explained things so nicely. He gave me some tips on what to do to prevent problems, and I thought that was really above and beyond the call. Usually, they just come out and do the job and leave.
We've had AHS for about five years and we use them mostly for the plumbing, and they have been good when I request a certain contractor. I was unhappy about the air conditioning problem, but it’s business, and I’m not gonna emotionalize it. I know there are other companies that I can choose, but I select American Home Shield.

It didn't seem like I was getting enough air in my living room because the vents were smaller and the guy who came bent the vent so the air would aim a different way. There wasn't really anything he could do unless he could put a bigger square where the air comes out, but he did the best he could with what I had. American Home Shield also fixed my electricity when my lights went out. The guy who came was super smart, very polite, nice, and knowledgeable. He came out and boom, boom, boom. He went room by room. He got the breakers and checked each outlet until he found the loose wire. It was really something how he did that. He knew to go to where the beginning of the problem was.
When the new wires were put in, the people didn't tighten out the wire and it got loose. And when it got loose, something in that wiring came up, which knocked off the electricity in the two bathrooms, 1 bedroom and part of the kitchen. When he found that one wire, boom, everything came right back on. It didn't take him that long. Anybody else, it would have been an all-day job. I'm super happy with AHS. I didn't mind the $75 payment. I thought it was gonna be $70 a room, but it was $75 for the whole house.

I was dissatisfied with the lack of professionalism of the repairmen, the untrained and lack of knowledge of some of the repair service technicians. Overall, I found the manner of service the company often used led to a decision of not covering a repair to a covered item. Often times, it appeared, the technicians diagnoses a problem in such a manner, it led to the conclusion that resulted in covered items, not being repaired. This practice, to me renders the policy as a useless expense. I experienced four separate cases for either a repair job was blotched or the jobs were rendered as a non-covered repair even though the items were covered items. Saved your money or find a better company!! I cancelled my policy several months prior to expiration date.

Updated on 09/22/2020: Over a month ago I submitted a claim for my pool pump. It took a couple weeks before a contractor was assigned. I received a call stating that they simply couldn’t find anyone so I was offered to find someone myself and they would reimburse me. Well I declined because I had a problem getting reimbursement from another call prior to this one so they set a vendor to come a week later. Vendor shows up. He changes the pool pump. Replaces the timer. Still having the same problem. He calls me out to show me the work he’s done and I say it’s still doing the same thing. So it wasn’t fixed. He was very unpleasant telling me this is why he never takes out of town jobs and he definitely won’t take another one. Well he left with nothing fixed. I still had the same problem. He told me and American Home Shield that it was something underground and said I need to call American Leak Detection and I did because he said I had a blockage.
Well I called American leak detection and they came out 2 days later. They found nothing wrong with my underground plumbing. Had to pay them 370 for nothing. Called the contractor back. Told him what they said so he desired to have their number so he can call them because I guess he didn’t believe me. Well I call American Home Shield. They opted to send someone for a second opinion. Well it’s been 2 more weeks and they assigned another contractor.
I called for an appointment and the contractor said he doesn’t come to my area so he cancelled the assignment. Called American Home Shield back. They had no idea why he canceled the job so they said they would call me back in 24 hours. Well it’s been 4 days. I get a call yesterday saying they decline a second opinion. I explained that the contractor they sent said it was underground and I had American leak detection say it wasn’t and I had papers to prove it so she says they will speak to supervisor and call me back. It’s never gonna get resolved and I’m over it.
Original review: First time I called they got an AC tech. Took two weeks for them to replace my unit. Two weeks ago I had a leak in my pool. Took 3 weeks and they couldn’t find anyone to come out. I had to call someone myself and still waiting for my reimbursement. So I’m paying for something they don’t even offer.
