We had a sewer gas smell in our house, and it was really bad. We couldn't even breathe in the house. We had to get to the point where we almost had to go to a hotel to live. So we called American Home Shield and spoke with a representative to submit the claim and the one thing that really was a downfall to the process was we were on hold for more than 45 minutes before we got a customer service representative.
A plumber was called out but unfortunately, the plumber did not find or locate the issue. I don't think he was experienced enough. He found a vent or a drain in our floor of our basement that wasn't capped, and he said that was where the sewer gas was coming from, but that wasn't the source of the gas. He took the easy way out, and didn't look further to what the problem was. So the second time we called American Home Shield warranty and said, "We're still smelling the gas. It's not fixed." They called the same plumber, and the plumber said they weren't coming back out because there was a problem with our sump pump drain. It was not draining and it was smelling. And I knew that that wasn't the case because this was sewer gas smell.
It was really bad.so we had to hire an outside plumber to come in and take a look at it. And we did call American Home Shield and let them know that we were going to do that, and they approved it. But the new plumber, after two visits, found that we had a broken vent pipe in the wall, and it was releasing gas. They just removed the pipe because it wasn't needed. Last night was the first night we lived in our home, and didn't have a bad smell.
So we had to call AHS warranty several times on the same thing but they did try to help us. American Home Shield is a good service. There are some glitches where you're on hold for long periods of time. But I have to also give them credit that we called just about anytime throughout the day, including the night, and they were available to us, so that was a good plus.

I had a dead refrigerator and filed a claim with American Home Shield. They couldn't get Sears to timely replace the issue. I called and the rep was wonderful on the phone. Then, Texas Gulf Coast Service Center came out and they tried their best to do what they could to fix it. They were prompt and got back in touch with American Home Shield. They did a wonderful job, much better than Mr. Rooter on a previous visit from a previous issue.
Initially, Mr. Rooter tried to charge me $950 out of my pocket for my part of what needed to be with the water heater. My plumber did the whole thing for 800 including the water heater. Also, I ended up having to call several times to get it resolved. So, I had a much better experience with Texas Gulf Coast Service Center. I like having a service person come out and take care of the problem instead of having to pay for it myself and then submit. AHS is wonderful. I'm still encouraging other folks to apply for American Home Shield.

A couple of weeks ago our hot water heater stopped working. We submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and it was easy. However, the person that they used wasn't great. In the beginning, he responded fine but after the initial time he came out here, he was just unresponsive. He wouldn’t respond to my calls and my questions. Also, he didn’t show up the second time that he said he was supposed to. He could have fixed our heater, but he literally stopped answering my calls. That was not AHS's fault but I guess they’re a little bit responsible for who they use. I just found someone else to fix the issue.

We had a ceiling fan break so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online and paid $75. The tech that was sent out was really good. He was quick and he knew what he was talking about. Also, we don't use our AHS that often but when we do, it's usually our pool. Then, AHS sends the same people and the guy is good.

I always get a human being when I call American Home Shield to submit a claim. It is easy to do, and my interactions with their reps have been very, very good. I had a claim for my air conditioner when it was 104 degrees in the summer. The service that their contractor did was good. They first tried Freon but that didn't work. It was cool for a day, and then it was obvious that they had to replace the unit. It took a week from the time I submitted a claim to when it was replaced, so we had to buy an extra fan or two at Home Depot during that time. But I have a brand new air conditioner now and it's working fine. I had success with AHS every time I have ever called them. I've had them in the house that I had before this, and no matter what happened, they have never failed to live up to the deal.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Judith. Thanks for being apart of the AHS family. Have an amazing week.

The water heater went out and I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. It was quick and easy and they were very professional. They contacted a local provider who took care of the issue and the quality of work was top-notch. AHS is very reliable and easy to work with. In fact, we had switched from Old Republic to American Home Shield because we had heard so many good things from other customers, and they were spot on.

My wife recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the microwave and the dryer. The technician that came out was very nice and courteous. He looked at the microwave and the dryer and he was very professional and did a good job. Everything has been running excellently since the service. In the past, though, when I had a claim for my refrigerator, a part had to be ordered and it took a long time for the repair to be done, so I was without a refrigerator for five days. But other than that, there has been no problem and I tell a lot of my friends that our AHS warranty saves money.

My last claim with American Home Shield was for the dryer. It was not heating and I submitted a claim online. For the average user, the site does what it’s supposed to do. It guides them through properly and it’s okay. Initially, the website comes back and says the contractor would call in 24 hours. Anthony usually gets back to me that day unless it’s late in the afternoon and he would call us back the next day. He has been out here a couple of times and also does air conditioning. He’s a real professional. He’s very friendly, open, and he’s about as honest as the day is long. The dyer has been operating like it’s brand new since the repair.

Navigating through American Home Shield's website was really easy and the contractor who came replaced my garbage disposal that was pouring water out of the bottom. Since then, it's working good. I would recommend others to get AHS if they don’t have something else already. It's great and has worked out good for us. I wouldn’t go without it.
I'm happy to hear that we were able to resolve your garbage disposal issue Mike Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a great week.

I had a faucet go bad on the sink and it took a while to get the whole thing resolved because after we got connected with the plumber guy, we went on a trip. We submitted the claim online and it went smoothly. My interactions with the contractor went well, although there were a couple of times where I felt he could have kept me informed. He was trying to locate the part and one of the things that he ran into was that it sounded like American Home Shield wanted him to try to repair something before AHS would replace it. He ordered the parts, but they weren’t the right parts. He wanted to order a new faucet unit, but it sounded like American Home Shield would only go to a contractor grade on the faucet unit, and it was not a contractor grade. It was something better than that, so it took a little time to get through that also. Ultimately, it worked out. It got fixed and everything’s wrapped up now.
When you’re talking about a faucet, the technician can tell whether it’s repairable or if it should be replaced. Meanwhile, he was racking up billable hours trying to work through repair stuff. American Home Shield isn’t saving any money with that philosophy on items like that. He spent at least two or three hours trying to work through the repair thing, so that was a decent chunk of the bill. Nevertheless, we recommend American Home Shield.

We feel good about our experience with American Home Shield. We pay American Home Shield upfront, not the technicians, after their technicians do the work. It's a flat fee of $75 and they take that out. We had three claims with American Home Shield and it worked out well. The first technician that I worked with was fast and he knew what he was doing. The last claim was the main circuit board of our microwave oven that went into a trouble code. The technician that they sent out didn't have all the parts so he ordered the circuit board and he fixed the switch. Right now, we're waiting on the service tech to come back. He'll call me when the board comes in.
If I had gone out and bought the part for $50, two parts would've been more than the fee, and then I would have to put it in. That's how I determine whether to make a claim or not. If I could fix it under what they charge, then I would do it on my own but if it's cheaper for them to do it and have me not worry about doing it, then I make a claim. In fact, I had an air conditioner fan that was binding. I went up, took the fan out, tried to fix it and put the fan back in. It worked for a day and it bound again. I called AHS and the mechanic came out, went upstairs and put the new one in. That was the one that I was really pleased with. I had recommended American Home Shield to several people. It's an additional insurance, like a homeowner's insurance, and for the $75 fee, it was worth it.

A stove burner in one of my rental units was out. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and their website was very user-friendly and worked out well. A contractor got out within a week. The tech was talking to us, but we were busy in the garage doing some stuff, so I just let him do his thing. My claims experience with AHS has been hit-and-miss. There have been times when I wouldn’t recommend them at all because some of the contractors that we’ve dealt with have been rude. But the guy that recently came out was nice and really good. He fixed the stove burner and explained exactly what was wrong with it, and it worked when he left.
I’ve got three rentals and my personal residence, and I’ve had AHS warranty for all four of them. But when I went to renew the warranty for my house, they doubled the price for the renewal. The rep said this was because I’ve filed too many claims. But I said I’ve got three rentals and she said that was just on my house. It was gonna be over $1,000 to renew, so I’m not doing that at all. Once my other warranties expire, I’m not renewing them too. I would tell people not to go with AHS and forget renewing with them.

We had the ice maker on our refrigerator replaced. The claim process of AHS was reasonably easy. The contractor was out the next day. The contractor was really good. He came out to fix it, showed me that it was working, and he was very pleasant. The repair didn’t work though. The machine kept icing up and it wasn’t delivering ice. So, I called American Home Shield again rather than calling the contractor directly. They got him in touch with me the next day, and he indicated that the ice maker needed replacement. They ordered the parts and kept me advised to when the parts came in, scheduled the time, and fixed it. It’s been fine since then.
We had some problems on the repair we had earlier in the year, on our clothes washing machine. They sent a man out very quickly who took a look and he recommended that the washer be replaced. Apparently, American Home Shield did not accept that report and referred another contractor. But somehow, the referral got lost, so we waited a week and nobody called us.
So, I called AHS again. I got a very good person who put me on a conference call with the contractor. I was told by the operator from American Home Shield that they prefer to fix rather than replace whole machines. The second contractor came out and indicated he thought that it should be replaced. This time, American Home Shield accepted that. I determined to buy it locally, so I could get it installed quickly. And it was a little confusing as to how to get reimbursed for that, but it finally came through and we got reimbursed. So, we have a new washing machine and it’s working fine now.
We’ve had AHS for about 12 years and those are the two claims we’ve made in one year. My biggest problem was that I was getting different answers from the people that I’ve reconnected to when I called earlier this year on the washing machine. But I found that they were very responsive on this one with the ice maker. We were very satisfied with that. I would recommend AHS.

We worked with a heating and cooling company for routine maintenance and I really liked them. They were early and professional, and I liked the fact that they were in uniform. The technician also answered all my questions. They were great. Thus far, American Home Shield is doing a great job and I would definitely recommend them for the appliance and heating and cooling warranty rather than getting the individual warranties for each appliance. It definitely comes out to be cheaper.

I asked for someone to come and check the ducts in the attic 'cause I didn't feel enough air was coming through. When the team got here, the man I talked to said it was my heating or my air conditioning, and I said it was the duct. He went up there, looked and took a picture, then he came back down and showed it to me. The duct was separated in a major junction, so he went out and got his tape. He came back in and taped it all together. It was really hard to understand, but he took his time and I completely knew what he meant. It was a very good experience. This is the first claim that I have filed even though I've had American Home Shield for a year, and they were very professional.

Original Review: I got linked up with a HVAC company through my American Home Shield Warranty. The contractor called me and I asked them if they worked on the humidifier that works with my HVAC system. They said yes. They came out and the tech right away said they actually don't work on humidifiers and basically just left. I ended up getting charged for the service call and NO ONE on the contractor side nor the American Home Shield side will take the responsibility. I was initially given wrong information on what is covered and what the contractor would fix and now I am left with the bill. Why would I have someone come out to my house if I knew they didn't work on the item I needed fixed. If they won't take responsibility for a small mess up like this on their end, I would stay far away from them on any other service call. Buyers Beware.

My furnace went out overnight on Sunday December 9, 2018. The following morning I called to request service. The repair company they contracted to could not come until Tuesday. On Tuesday, I was told the part they believed it was would be ordered and I would hear back that day as to when it could be fixed. At 11 the next day when I had not heard back I called the repair company and was told by the owner that it could be up to 7 business days before they had the part but if I had not used the warranty through AHS it could have been done in 24 hours.
I called AHS and spent over an hour on the phone with them just to be told it was not an emergency and they would not authorize expedited shipping on the part. I was told there was nothing they could do because I did not meet emergency qualifications. It is December in St. Louis and that is not an emergency for no heat? Two weeks to fix is not acceptable.
I called my normal company and they are on their way. Guaranteed it will be fixed in no more than 24 hours. AHS did nothing to fix my problem. I will never call them again. Good thing I did not pay for the policy. It came with the house. They will not even send me a confirmation that they contacted the repair company to cancel the work order much less refund my payment. If you have an emergency like I did, don't expect it to be treated as such.

I have an American Home Shield Policy. I had an electrical problem which AHS' Contractor said AHS would have to determine whether it was covered. AHS denied coverage and said the problem was an act of God. I had another electrical come out and fix the problem at a cost less than the AHS contractor wanted to charge and the contractor I had out said it was probably a loose connection which is covered under the AHS contract. On the phone for over 35 minutes. I submitted all required paperwork for a repair that happened on a Sunday night. I called 3 weeks later and got the run around from a call center in the PI. They are waiting on a complete diagnosis from the technician. We got permission to go outside of AHS because they could not find anyone. AHS called and spoke with the technician while he was here and got all the information he could provide. I spoke with a manager. Still the same "by the instruction book" answer. Very frustrating. I will not renew with them. Sincerely suggest you not use them.

On Dec 3 we called AHS re a potential need for repair of a Samsung stove. They charged $125 for a service call and said their contractor would contact us within two days. We did not hear from the contractor (Sears) and on Dec 6 called to cancel the service as in the interim we discovered it was our error in operating the stove and no service was needed. They advised us that our “account would be credited” for the service charge. On Dec 7 we saw no credit to bank acct so called again. The person said that they saw the credit and it would show in our account within 24-48 hours. By the 12th we still had not been credited and desperately needed it as we are retired and on a fixed income and our balance was close to zero. On calling them they then informed us that the credit will be processed within 14-21 days and they would mail a check. This was contrary to what we had been told.
Two calls to them that day resulted in their stubborn refusal to help. We requested to speak to a manager. On one call they said no manager was available so we waited on the call for almost an hour on hold with no further response. On a second call they hung up on us. Later a manager called and said he would look into it and call us back. He has not as of this writing. First we believe that they should honor their two employees initial advice that our account should be immediately credited. Second $125 is exorbitant as we later discovered the contractor’s service charge was only $60. This so called service is lousy and I wish I could give zero charges. Do not use them, find another way to handle services. Walk away if you already have their service.

Having spent over $650 for the year, I made a service call and NO ONE answered for 52 minutes. I called back to complain and no one answered for 31 minutes. When I finally got to a supervisor (Chasity in the Memphis office), she was as rude as any customer service rep I have ever dealt with and seemingly could not care less about the hold time. PLEASE do not make the same mistake I have. This is a complete waste of your money. Do the math. Your first service call will cost you about $725 (annual fee plus a service charge). Save your money and put it in a home maintenance account. You will thank me later. Besides even if you don't mind wasting your money, then you have to decide if you want to waste your time because you will certainly do that. Chasity was the last straw. I am cancelling after decades as a customer.

I had the warranty with the purchase of a new home. The first year went quite well. We had a water heater go out and a few other things. It was a bit of a pain to work through them when the contractor didn't fix what they needed to right away, but it seemed worth the effort. Based on that I renewed and this second year has been a disaster. Calling their customer service has been one of the worst customer service departments ever, not because they are rude, but seem incompetent or unwilling to address the problem. There is no follow up on their part when having problems with a contractor. It is now 4 months and counting since I had a contractor come out to assess what was wrong. The guy seemed nice but then he no showed the next 3 appts without calling. I had to keep calling back to get back on their schedule.
I have talked to AHS on 3 occasions and they have told me that they will take care of it, but nothing has happened and no progress has been made a couple months into calling them. I asked for a different contractor and they told me I would be charged for that. I asked them if they had an expectation for how long it should take for a contractor to perform their work and they said there is no limit. On my last call, each which I have had to wait on hold for at least 15 minutes to get through, I was told that the contractor hadn't even submitted a work order to AHS which is necessary before the work can even be approved.
It has probably been the most frustrating process I have ever dealt with. The bad part is I would cancel, but I have already paid for the work so I really wanted to at least get the service I paid for before leaving. 4 months and probably about 20 calls between calling the contractor and AHS and I will never choose to pay for their service again. It worked great when it worked, but when it didn't it feels like a scam that you are paying for something that you get nothing in return for. I felt it was only fair to give them 2 stars since I had some positive, but the negative is too much.
Hello, Luke. I am definitely working to get a resolution to this service request. Thank you for responding to me and I appreciate your patience.

I submit claims with American Home Shield either online or over the phone, depending on where I am. If I’m doing it from the hospital where I work, I do it on the telephone. If I’m at home, then I do it from my tablet. Both ways, the process of getting the claim submitted is equally easy. Recently, we had the oven looked at for the temperature and then our dryer needed to be repaired. It was the thermocouple. The contractor that came out was very knowledgeable and offered very good service. Everything has been working fine since the repair. If we had any other service, my husband would like the same company to come. Overall, the experience with AHS was easy and it was great to be able to have an easy service to get something repaired.

Submitting claims online to AHS has been easy. However, the first experience we had with them was horrible and I was ready to walk. Still, we’ve had two other repairs since then that have been excellent. It was a fluke that the contractor we got the first time didn’t measure up. Fortunately, the last two have been solid. A guy came out today to fix the convection oven and this is the second visit. The first visit, the tech diagnosed the problem. I realized he had to order a couple of parts that would be shipped to our house. The parts came here and I notified the shop. They have been professional and their response time has been good. The technician came out and put the parts in, but the convection oven still didn't work. He called the shop to get further directions. They said they had to go back to the manufacturer to get some more details as to why it was not working.

My dryer was not heating and then it won't shut off. I put in a request through American Home Shield online and I paid my $75 copay. I got a text saying they would be contacting me within 24 hours. Then, the next text message said the appointment was scheduled for which was Thursday between 11:00 and 3:00 with Clark's Appliance repairs. Then, they said that if I had any questions, I could respond to that SMS text message. So I responded and asked if they were coming out to diagnose or to actually fix it. My concern was that they were gonna come out and just diagnose the dryer and then leave for another week. Nobody ever responded.
Then, that Thursday, my daughter and I were home all day and between 11:00 and 3:00, I did not go anywhere. I waited for the guy to show up, but I never got a confirmation phone call or text about the appointment. I never talked to the person ever. I didn't even have a conversation with them except through text. 3 o'clock rolls around, the end of our window, and I had things I needed to do. I didn't know if the guy was coming and if I was still on his schedule book. So I called the number that was sent through the text originally. It went to voicemail and said that Clark's appliance repair was busy with a client and on the message, it said if I couldn't leave a message, then text. I left a message saying my appointment was between 11:00 and 3:00 and asked if anybody was coming that day. I also sent a text. The guy texted back asking for my address.
I sent him my address and he said he was going to a call out in Chandler and then he would be coming to Mesa. By that time it was 3:30 and I had to leave to go pick up my husband at the airport. Chandler is like over half an hour away from where I live anyway. We were talking 4:00 or 5:00 o'clock traffic and I had no idea how long he was gonna be at that call. I told him I needed to leave and go pick someone over in the airport and I would be back. I asked if it worked with his time frame. He said he would call when he was on his way and if he couldn't make it that day, then we would reschedule for tomorrow. It sounded great. I was on my way to the airport and at 4:00, Clark's appliance repairs texted me he was not gonna make and he would schedule me for the following day.
I asked what was his anticipated time frame for the following day because I am a nurse and I work night and I sleep during the day. I took Thursday off, so that I could be up all day long with him being here. He asked what time I go to sleep. I said that I sleep at noon and all he texted back was, "Sounds good." He said he would be here before then. I asked what time because if he was talking 11:45 and he was gonna be here for an hour diagnosing the problem, then that means I don't get to sleep till 1:45 and I have to get up at 4:00, so that doesn't work for me. He said he had an appointment and he had to go out to Apache Junction first before he comes to me. So, not only was everybody put before me on Thursday, now we were rolling into the second day and he was still putting people before me. And I was supposed to be on between 11:00 and 3:00 on Thursday.
He never called, he never said he was running late, nothing until I finally reach out to him and said, "What's the deal?" I texted him and said that he seemed really busy. I told him to go ahead and just cancel my work order with American Home Shield because I have already taken a day off and I couldn't take another day off Friday. I said I was gonna have to call and schedule a different appointment. He said he would cancel my work order with American Home Shield. He wished me luck finding somebody to fix it by the end of the following week instead of the following day. That was the last time I heard from him. He didn't text or anything else after that.
AHS has always been great. I've been a customer of theirs for 15 years. I was a real estate agent and I use to buy a home warranty for American Home Shield for all my clients. So, I've never had a problem with American Home Shield, but he was not professional or appropriate in any way. He did not reach out. If he at least, let me know, "Hey I'm running behind," then I could have made different arrangements to get my husband picked up from the airport. But he didn't even do that. He didn't give me any time frames.
The next day, I called American Home Shield and explained that situation that I've already paid $75 copay, I couldn't go back online and request service again without having to pay another $75 copay. And the guys never showed up and then didn't get in touch with me until later in the evening when I texted him, still never called and I need to get my dryer fixed. I was on the phone with the first lady, she hung up on me with American Home Shield.
Then I called back and talked to the second lady. I explained the situation again and while I was in the phone with her, she asked if she could put me on a brief hold and try to find a vendor in my area. I said, "Sure." So while I was on hold, they called him. She said that Clark's Appliance repair called her and he told her he had been out to my house twice on Thursday. He said I told him I had to go pick somebody up in the airport and he would try to reschedule to come back later in the afternoon and that I couldn't reschedule it. Everything he said was a total lie. None of it was true.
I have all the text messages and times conversation of when I actually had the conversation with him and I never received a phone call from him. My daughter and I were here all day. I even texted my neighbor next door and said I had to leave and go pick my husband up from the airport. My daughter was gonna be here by herself and she knew to let the guy in to fix the dryer. I have all these on text, times, dates stamp, everything, and this guy completely lied. AHS said that he said the job was done and he has completed the work order. And I canceled it, but completed the work order and was sending a bill to American Home Shield anyway even though he never came to fix it. We would have known if he would have even come and knock on the door. Even if we were in the back of the house, we would have known if someone was at the door.
I still don't have a dryer. I took today off again because I'm here today, between 12:00 and 6:00, somebody named Jarred is supposed to be here to diagnose my dryer, not fix it, and then, they're gonna have to order the part. And God knows when they'll be back to fix it. So, I'm going on four weeks now without a dryer. I'm a little bit frustrated but the second lady that I talked to with American Home Shield was very helpful and very understanding. She put in a whole new work order so that I wouldn't have to pay another $75 copay to have somebody come out and fix my dryer.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for a garbage disposal issue and the tech who came to my home was nice. Everything was great with his visit but there was more he could've done with fixing the garbage disposal. He didn’t even tell that he saw something stuck in it. He told me why they were gonna have to replace it and he submitted the claim.
When the rep at AHS called to do a re-up, she told me that the tech said that there was something metal in it and that he couldn't get it out. He had never taken the garbage disposal apart and all he had ever done was stick a screwdriver which moved around the blades and then started the garbage disposal up. When he put the claim in to replace it, the reps at AHS said they couldn't because it was not regular wear and tear. Something was stuck in there. I’ve never had a contractor who did that. Everybody has always explained everything to me and laid it out to me. That was the first time that has ever happened. AHS has sent me several emails saying that they won't be able to fix it and because of this, I figured that I'll just fix the garbage disposal myself.
Hello, John. We regret to learn that your issue was not covered based on the info provided by the technician. If you ever disagree with the diagnosis provided by the tech, please contact us and we can offer a second opinion company to come out. Thank you for the feedback.

The part that turns on the heater and air conditioner wasn’t working so we needed to get a new one, and that was what American Home Shield did for us. I just called them and they took over from there. They found a company out here that works with them and the technician we dealt with did an excellent job. He was nice and very professional. I’ve had two claims with AHS in the last couple of years, and they’ve both been positive. And if my friends didn’t have any home warranty, I’d tell them that I would go with AHS.

I had a problem with my heater and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The technician who came out was very motivated. I’m not sure as far as trade skill, maybe more in the medium range. But it took two visits and he definitely stayed on the job and got my heater fixed. Since then, everything has been perfect. The last two vendors who worked on my washing machine seemed motivated too and made a real effort to try to get the work done the right way. So, I was very, very happy. American Home Shield is just like a car insurance. In an ideal world, you’d like to have it and not really use it. The fact that I have needed it and have used it several times recently and it has worked well, that’s a great thing.

I called American Home Shield and the contractor came that same week to fix the toilet in the bathroom. I told him what was going on. He wrote something up and he told me what had to be done. I asked him about it too. Since then, it’s been operating fine. It was a good experience but I need to call AHS again because my oven is not running like it should. AHS is a good place for people to deal with different things happening in your home, and they’re good people to deal with. It will keep me from having to go out and look for somebody to fix whatever is wrong, and it’s just much better.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good so far. There was an issue with my water heater and I was smelling gas around it. I tried submitting the claim online but the website wasn't working, so I ended up having to call them, which was easy to do. The plumber that they sent out checked the water heater, did the soap and bubble test, and said there was no leak and that we should be fine. The interaction with him was straightforward. He was super helpful and came on time.

We're having a GFCI plug in our bathroom that's tripping out on us. I submitted a claim to AHS over the internet. That worked really well as I was on hold for 15 minutes prior to that so I just went online to file the claim. Their techs came and they were very friendly. They told my wife what was wrong and replaced the plug. However, it's tripping out again and so AHS's contractor is coming out once more next week.

The toilet that came with the house was leaking. The seller provided American Home Shield for us, and supposedly, it had the toilet repaired before we came to live here. But the tank itself was leaking and the fill valve was leaking. I submitted the claim through the website and a person came out to look at it. They said that the leak probably had been there for a while and for that reason, would not be covered by the warranty, which was disappointing but it is what it is. They suggested that we replace the toilet outright, which we were able to do without too much trouble. Other than that, we had an issue about the fridge and it was dealt with immediately. They were very consummate professional. If we were to have any other issues around the house, I would go to American Home Shield first instead of trying to deal with it myself.

I will never recommend that contractor to anybody. They still have not come out. I just want somebody to come and fix my issue. I have this new appliance sitting in my house, no one has come and installed it yet. I hope they send someone over who can actually get the job done. When I turned on the furnace, it would click on then it would click off, so I had no heat for a couple of days. I submitted the claim online with AHS then they lined me up with someone in my area. After that, they sent me the name and number of the contractor that would be contacting me within 24 hours and the person came the next day. Before the tech came out, they sent me a message and said he would be there by whatever time. I couldn’t be home when he was coming but I left the key for him to come in. At that point, I couldn’t miss work and I needed heat. It was cold. Then they have a tracking thing to let you know that the person was on his way. And he came and did whatever he had to do. Then he left and didn’t call to say anything.
When I called to find out if the furnace was fixed or not, I spoke to the person in the office who was very nice and helpful. She said that the tech didn’t resolve the situation and that she would call me back. She also said that she would send a more experienced person out, which she did and the second tech came that night. He was off-work but was in the area. When he came, he saw what the problem was and said that he could fix it temporarily for me to have heat at night, but he didn’t want to take the chance. He wanted to fix it right. So, I told him to just come back 6:00 o’ clock the next day.
That was on a Friday and on Saturday, he wasn’t working but he went out to the store to get the part that I needed. Unfortunately, the store was closed. So he called me early in the morning and told me he couldn’t come that day because the store was closed. But he came promptly on Monday, fixed the issue, and was very nice and very professional. Everything has been going well since the repair.
I’ve been with AHS for a long time now and so far, I’ve had some good experiences and I’ve had some not-so-good experiences in the past. It all depends on the contractor in the area and most of the time, they would come and do a good job. There were a couple of times where I had something that was wrong and they came four times until they fixed the situation, but that was a few years ago. But overall, as far as communication and professionalism, the people at AHS has been good. Also, I haven’t really had to call in that much, but when I do call in, they respond. I would recommend them to a friend.

I'm very happy with AHS. I'm 79. So, it's so nice when something breaks down, I call AHS. The only drawback, I have to wait a long time a good 30 minutes when I call them on the phone to submit a claim. And I'm too old to be using the computer. But it's awesome to have them on my side. I try not to submit because I do have a handyman. So, a lot of the times, I go through my handyman. I don't wanna have to use the system. But when I do need it, AHS has followed through right away. Whatever we pay for the peace of mind, it's really worth it. I insured my son, but he doesn't wanna take advantage because he thinks they're going to raise his rates. So, somehow, someone gave him the wrong information. Because I have put three claims and to me, it's wonderful. I also have another house insured that I have a tenant.
Recently, they worked on my dryer and I was very happy. They were very nice. I had to wait a long time for a part, but that must be probably normal. The technician was pretty knowledgeable. The people in the office were very nice and friendly as well. They tried to accommodate me. They have come other times, once for the same dryer and then another time for the washer. And then, the other claim that I put was for my swimming pool which was leaking, but I never got a call because the leak has to be on top, not inside the pool. The pool has a little crack so, I don't think they cover that.

Sitting on hold for over 35 minutes is completely ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that they never picked up and I finally had to hang up. Do they have only 1 person answering the phones? Sometimes it's necessary to actually verbally correspond with a representative because the computer and automated phone service requests don't actually answer any questions you may have. I'm honestly re-thinking their service altogether.

So I submitted for reimbursement after calling another company. My request for reimbursement was denied twice due to the fact I didn't get 'approval' from the warranty company. I think calling your contractor and your customer service rep is more than enough 'approval' to be reimbursed. This was an emergency situation and something needed to be done. Attempted to contact the plumbing company, leaving 2 messages and no return calls.
Contacted AHS yesterday and work order was listed as "completed". I was told by AHS that a tech reported a diagnosis was unable to be made as the area was rancid with "urine". Not true as animals are not in basement ever, and both dogs are housebroken. The area is "messy", I admit, but NOT like that. I requested a different company due to the conflicting reports to no avail (unless I want to put out more $$ for visit). AHS attempted to contact the company, also without success and I was told I would be called back. 24 hours have passed and I have not received any calls. Needless to say, I am less than happy. I thought, "That's good, I did not know they would do that." I was told how to submit the bill for reimbursement. I submitted it. The contract clearly states the coverage. When I submitted the issue I was having with my plumbing, I submitted the symptoms of the problem because I am not the plumbing expert. The plumber stated he can't fix the noise and that the problem was something else. WHAT?? How would I know what the problem is? That's what the plumber is for. The issue causing the noise is also a covered item but apparently I have to set up a new service call and pay all over again to say that I want the specific item covered, not the symptom. The plumbers don't get paid enough to work on your problem so they are in and out fast and do very minimal work. This is a complete rip-off. Now I have to hire another plumber and get the issue fixed on my own. Was not worth having this insurance. I wish this company would just make right by this but they still will not after 5 calls. And I keep getting a bill for the service but I won't pay because I am not satisfied with the work.
Thank you for your patience, I am glad we were able to reach a resolution to your service request.

I had a leak in the basement and I did the claim with American Home Shield. But then I saw who they were gonna send out, which is a bottom-of-the-barrel feeder company. So, I cancelled the claim, and I went out and got a better company to do the work. I’ve had AHS for a long time, and they're good on the minor stuff. But if I have a real issue, I can’t have these bottom-of-the-barrel companies coming out and doing significant fixes and works because in my experience, it’s been a frustration and a problem that is built upon itself. So, I don’t use my warranty to it’s fullest because of my lack of confidence that’s been built up over time by the companies that AHS actually puts on its rosters.
When I submit my claim online, AHS sends me the company that's coming. I look up the company and it gets slaughtered on the internet on the feedback. I can tell AHS not to send the company that they initially said, but then they will send me another one that is a bottom of the barrel feeder. The good folks don’t wanna work with AHS. So, I’ll use AHS when it’s a refrigerator problem or something small, but if it’s anything of significance, I don’t use them. I can’t because the second or third order affects my time and costs more money. I don’t have the time to deal with it.
The company that AHS sent out did the assessment on my heating system. They said that I was not cleaning the filters which caused the problem. But that wasn’t the problem. The filters were about two weeks old, but they had made that assessment and that was it. It’s not because the contractor wasn’t trying, but they were just not good. So, I went and I did it on my own dime. It wasn’t the filters at all, but there was a problem with the heating coil. They replaced the heating coil and I paid for the replacement, and we’ve been fine for the last four years. In my personal opinion, most of the companies that AHS uses are not highly rated and reputable companies. I won’t be using American Home Shield in the very near future.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We thought we just needed to clean the lines, so we were gonna have him do that. But, he said we got more than that. So last week, we decided to call American Home Shield. The contractors who came out yesterday were good. They got the wrong part, so they took a picture of what they needed and then they reordered and said they're setting up another appointment for Monday. So far, we're very happy with AHS.
Good morning Sharon,
I am glad to hear about your most recent service experience. I hope you continue to enjoy your warranty with AHS!

The garage door wasn’t opening, and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I requested the service and Concho Valley Door called us. They came over and they told us what they thought was wrong with the garage door. They had to order a part, but to do that, they had to talk with the insurance company first to see if it was a go. They submitted all that stuff for us and it took a day but they got the approval. They ordered the part and got the garage door fixed, and everything has been very good since the repair. With American Home Shield, you have to know what their coverages are. The basic coverage doesn’t cover what we eventually had this claim for, but what we have is the more comprehensive one. As long as you know you're covered, then no big deal.

Sometimes the wait time at American Home Shield for getting anyone out to call is very long. I've done a few online requests for claims but if I ever try to call, it takes a really long time to get through. Also, it's always a foreigner that's speaking to us so it's a little bit difficult sometimes to understand what they're saying. The other thing is that I misunderstood and thought that the cost is associated with a visit versus each appliance. It turns out that it depends on whether or not the appliance is something that someone from one service provider can see to versus two. So, if you have a plumbing issue and something else, those two don't go together so those would be two different service costs. I wasn't aware of that, and I didn't realize that at one point I was gonna get charged twice and have two different services come out.
Other than that, it seems pretty easy to navigate American Home Shield online. The contractors are professional and polite. The quality of work is great and they take their time in diagnosing the problem, having to go purchase parts and getting things taken care of. They're very diligent. The company that came in recently and did the repair work did a great job. They had to come back a number of times, but they took care of it as many times as it took for them to come back. I would recommend having a home warranty especially when you're purchasing a house that's not brand new.

Two weeks ago, we paid for service to have our clothes dryer fixed. The company that they assigned to this came out and the technician didn't have any parts because he had to first see what the problem was before he could order what he needed. That was fine. They will call me when they get the part in, to set up a repair. The technician fixed it, then something else broke because he didn't check everything else that was there with the clothes dryer motor. He came out, replaces the part, he breaks the belt that he just put on. Now, American Home Shield had them come back out to put in a new belt. The technician said, "I have the belt in stock. I will be there first thing tomorrow morning, and I will put it back on. I promise." Two days later, he can't come out because they didn't have the part. Today, he got hurt on a job and has the part and they don't have any way to get the part from him because they can't send someone to go get it.
We've been going back and forth with American Home Shield on the last hour. We've had phones calling American Home Shield at the same time. My brother has been on his laptop, talking to them online, and he spent 42 minutes on the phone talking to someone that he couldn't understand, and that makes it very difficult. It's hard to understand people that have broken English. When you're in a customer service based operation you have to provide a service where people can understand who they're talking to. So eventually, we finally got an answer that they'll try and get somebody out here tomorrow morning with the belt.
I'm pissed with my experience with American Home Shield. We pay them on time every single month without fail. I want my deductible back on this service calls, and I want another $50, because I've had to keep going to the laundromat to do the clothes because they keep telling me I'm gonna have a dryer the next day, and I still don't have a clothes dryer.
Good morning Cathy,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service and hold time you have experienced. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the dryer repaired.

I filed an online claim to American Home Shield for a clogged drain on the washer. The plumber they sent out advised me that it wasn't covered and was gonna charge me $600 to get on the roof to clear the drain and they wouldn't send anybody else out to give me a second opinion. The contractor was horrible. He just wanted more money. He was suggesting an absurd process in order to get my issue fixed. He knew I needed my washer and I felt like he was just trying to make me do something that obviously wasn't necessary. He wouldn't even snake the drain. He refused to do it because there was no clean-out or access point. So I contracted my own plumber and he was able to get the line snaked for $85. It's working fine now and I'm back in business.
I would still recommend American Home Shield. I've always been a very big advocate. I've had them for 10 years and I've used them at least four times a year, and I've never had an issue with the contractors that they've provided. That was my first bad experience and I'm not gonna let one bad experience ruin everything. It was a contractor issue which I have complained to them about. I will never let American Home Shield send them back out to my house if I need a plumber in the future.

My Realtor negotiated that the seller put a year’s worth of American Home Shield into the home. And the service paid for itself ‘cause I had to have the main lines snaked and a whole bunch of plumbing works done, and they took care of it. It was quick and easy. Then we renewed our policy and our heat went out, so I went to their website and made a claim. Navigating through the website was good and easy to understand. Putting things in and the flow of going from one option to the next was easy, as well.
AHS sent out a company and the guy replaced the gas valve and got our heat back in not even an hour. He was quick and super professional. American Home Shield is useful and worth to have especially for older houses with a lot of appliances and things going bad. I have truly enjoyed their service, so far, and I have talked to my folks into getting it too because they have an older house, especially now that everything is more expensive.

It took them 48 hours to reach out to us 'cause it was over the weekend but they were pretty quick in sending someone the next day. I was concerned about the fact that the technician that they sent out was from a low-rated company. But he was good and noticed right away what the issue was. He fixed the AC system and it was working after the repair. But the next day, the AC was rattling. When I submit my claims with American Home Shield, the online process is usually pretty straightforward. Thereafter, a contractor gets a hold of me quickly. I have an ongoing claim for my heating system. It’s not fixed yet and the contractor is still working on it. It started off with the electrical breaker which was burning out, and so we had an electrician come in to replace the breaker. He said that he thought it was pulling too much current from the heating system. So, we had an HVAC guy come in to look at it, and he said the breaker was the wrong size. He’s gonna come back today to put in a larger breaker and check what’s being drawn.
Generally, American Home Shield has been good. The only knock I would give them is that when they have to go from one thing to another and it’s two different vendors or contractors that have to come in, it didn’t seem like the communication goes between the two contractors very well. Still, American Home Shield is great to have. The price point is right and they are so prompt in responding.
Good morning Dexter,

When my electronic air cleaner died I called AHS. Their response: An air filter/cleaner is not a component or part of the HVAC and so is not covered. Their contract says "All components and parts..." There is no mention of an air cleaner/filter as being excluded. In fact, their own website - over 6,200 pages - has no mention - ANYWHERE - that an air cleaner/filter is excluded. In fact, an air cleaner is referred to as part of the HVAC system.
So, if you wanted to be honest and upfront, would it be a better policy to DISCLOSE those items that are not included? Perhaps. But AHS prefers to take your money and then later disqualify your claim, in my case, because, "With regard to the electronic air cleaner, Section A.1 of the enclosed warranty plan states that coverage includes only those items stated as covered, excluding all others. The electronic air cleaner is not listed in the warranty plan as a covered item. The furnace is listed as a covered item in accordance with Section E.2 of the warranty plan; however, an electronic air cleaner is an independent system and is not necessary or required to heat the home." Thanks AHS for taking my money. Nothing but outright theft.
Hello, Robert. I apologize that you had that denial for your air cleaner. In our policy, if it is not specifically listed, it is not a covered item. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to further discuss your coverage concerns.

My account started to have a “past due” status and I could not self-schedule any other service. I called and was assured my status would be updated to current, there was no issue with cancelling. Three months later I noticed a $100 charge for the cancelled service request. I’ve called numerous times and it has not been resolved in 3 months! They do not have available email contact, so I spend hours on the phone and still no resolution. So maybe they are good at getting repairs, but when you cancel, they seem to want to hang onto your money. Meanwhile, they kept charging me monthly. An entire headache. They are being cancelled!

AHS only covers up to the horsepower that our current pump has, but it was so old and there have been so many upgrades ever since. I started with American Home Shield this year and they have been awesome. I had an issue with a heating element and Rapp’s Heating and AC came out. The tech was amazing. He didn’t do something the first time, so the unit started doing the same thing, but when he came the second time, he was in and out. I also had an appointment with Rapp's for the Friday after Thanksgiving between 8:00 and 12:00. I called on Wednesday before that and asked if there was any way that someone could get out here sooner. My grandkids were on the second floor and we had guests. The lady rep said that she would have someone call me, but no one called me on Friday between 8:00 and 12:00.
I called Rapp’s at 11:35 and the young lady said that the techs had up until 12 o’clock to call me. I said that I thought they would call half an hour before 12:00, which was 11:30, but she said no. 12:35 came and I called back, and the same young lady answered. She said that the tech was running late and I asked why she didn't call me. She said she was sorry and that the techs would call me half an hour before they come. It was a Friday and I asked if she knew what time the techs would be here, and she said no. I never heard from the tech. I called back at around 3:30 and the rep said that the tech had a family emergency. She also said that he almost lost his father and he was not gonna be able to come. I said that that was personal and that she shouldn’t even be telling me that. I also said that my family situation was an emergency.
The lady at Rapp’s lied. I had an appointment and I shouldn’t have to call back. She should have called me. I called on three occasions and she made it like my issue wasn’t an emergency and she also told me the technician’s personal business to make me feel bad. That was not my business. She should have taken into more consideration that I had an emergency also. The temperature in our house went down to around 20 degrees. I called American Home Shield and the rep I spoke to was great. She called Rapp's and a lady from Rapp’s called me back. The Rapp's rep apologized and said that the techs were not gonna be able to get out until Tuesday. I told her to make the appointment and I switched back over to the rep at American Home Shield.
Everyone I spoke to at American Home Shield in those few days was very pleasant, courteous, and generous. They answered questions and tried to help me out. One lady at American Home Shield said the service was no charge to me because it was something that Rapp’s didn’t fix and she said she could have someone come out here, but it would be a different company and I’d have to pay, which I didn’t want to do. We went out and bought little heaters to go and the big ones as well. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. I have shared them with my friends in another state. I’m glad I’m a customer.

We had a previous claim on a refrigerator. We reported it to American Home Shield and paid $125 deposit back in July. But after four visits by a technician, they could not find a part. Finally, we were given the option of purchasing a new refrigerator from them or taking a cash settlement. We took the cash settlement but that didn’t happen until three weeks ago and the reason for the hold up was a combination of things. American Home Shield wanted to make sure that there was not a part available from any vendor and that took a while. They had two different technicians come to look at the refrigerator and one of them was the Sears technician. He came twice and he was excellent. But the report that was sent was not to correct parts by the manufacturer. It was just a fiasco from the very beginning and it took almost three months to get corrected.
Recently, we had a claim for the cook top and that couldn’t have gone any smoother. We had American Home Shield replace something that was burnt out in the unit and their service was very timely and professional. It took 24 to 48 hours to get the contractor dispatched and the one that they sent, Shenandoah Electric, was excellent to work with. They called in advance that they were gonna be here and when they came, they dismantled the cook top, did the diagnostics on it, and decided what parts they needed to order. Then they put the cook top right back together and ordered the parts. In three days, they came back with the parts to install them.
Other than that, we also had our refrigerator, oven and range replaced, through our warranty with AHS . We had plumbing repairs with them as well. Overall, the warranty has been pretty valuable and under recent circumstances, American Home Shield is excellent to deal with. We just had that one incident that we were not very satisfied with the timeliness.

My hot water went out and AHS gave me a automatic response with some company named Durango. This company had serviced my home previously and their service was horrible that I had to call and get another vendor out. So I asked if they could send another vendor out as opposed to this Durango and they gave me this company called R & S Plumbing. When they called, they had already set up the reservation and whatnot. So, I called them and said that wasn’t a good time and if they could come at this another time. They said they could. When the guy came, he first he called me and told me he was coming.
As he walked in the door, he said, “My name is Skyler. This is my wife who’s riding along with me.” It was odd and I was like if he was coming to do the work, why is he bringing his spouse? It was an unprofessional service call. I showed him where the leaks were and he said it was very minor. And then I showed him the hot water heater. I don’t even think he knew where to look at the hot water heater other than took a picture.
He was in there trying to fix the leak in the tub and was beating with a hammer. And I had a never seen a plumber beat with a hammer. His wife said that she would wait downstairs because she wants him to do his work. She kept giggling and giggling, and then my wife said, “You better get upstairs,” because every time he would hammer, she’d get real tickled. She said, “I’ve never heard of plumber beat like that. You better get up here.”
I also asked, “Do you cut the gas out when you do the hot water heater,” When he was downstairs, he didn’t say anything about it. He said, “Don’t worry about that.” He said, “I can do hot water heaters. I’ve done them smoking a cigarette.” I said, “Please, don’t smoke a cigarette while doing my gas.” He said, “No, no. I was young.” I didn’t want this guy messing around my head. It was just horrible. I never got a call that morning from American Home Shield so I called. And they said, “Oh, you have a modification that’s required and it’s gonna cost extra amount of dollars.”
We were going back and forth. I had actually called Home Depot and Lowe’s out. So many here estimates of what it would cost. And when American Home Shield said, “Yeah, we’re gonna come out,” I already knew how much it would cost. So, I was like, this is fairly easy. But then, when they told me, “We can’t do any of it because you got a modification.” So, I was sitting there and saying, “Modification?” I said, “Both of these two reputable companies with certified plumbers came out and they said nothing about a modification.”
So I asked the rep if I can get a copy of whatever their pricing was. They said, “We don’t have a copy of it. We just tell you what they said and how much it cost.” I said, “You can’t expect me to pay without seeing what I had to pay for especially if that’s not even included in the price of the water heater.” So they said, “No, we don’t do that. We don’t break down our cost." After a couple of days, finally somebody said, “This is what the water cost. This is what the labor is.” I was like, “Man, you can’t find anybody in the state of Alabama who can do that for $159 labor. “ And so, it went on. But then I texted Skyler after they told me. I said, “Can you show me a copy of your estimate since you want me to pay it?”
He got smart. He said a lot of stuff in it, that Home Depot people not certified, that he was gonna give me a commercial grade hot water heater when I’m on residential. And I’m saying, “Nope. You got a bubblehead coming after the house. Why would you put a commercial grade hot water heater in my house when this is a resident?” It was a mess and then this is the kicker. As I got that thing, the modifications were $200. So, I asked him, I said, “Well, this appears that the rest of it is all the regular stuff.” He said, “Nope. It’s all separate. I wrote everybody because I felt this was price gouging.
When another contractor came back out, I showed them the estimate. One of the contractors said, “It’s contractors like this who tries to fraud customers. There’s no way it should cost this much.” The other one went on to be more in depth about it. I told them that it's American Home Shield’s opportunity to do this. I need to get my house fixed because I have to go and stay in an apartment, because I got a premature baby that was born that we take care of, my granddaughter. I said, I haven’t hot water, and it’s leaking, and my pipes, as it stand, could freeze over with the cold weather. I called Home Depot because they were the cheapest. I said, “Can you send that certified plumber?” The lady quoted me a price. They came out. Those guys put their hot water heater in yesterday within 30 minutes with no problem at all.
The rep of AHS said, “When you get the invoice, send it to us and we’ll pay it.” And I’m just waiting on the invoice to come back through from the Continental or at Home Depot, whichever it was that charged my credit card so I can send it to her. I felt like I was redeemed then, but I won’t know until I get paid when I submit the invoice. What I don’t wanna have happened is resubmit a invoice, and then they tell me, “No, we’re not gonna pay it now.”

I made a claim by phone for the spring of the garage door, and the contractor that came was very knowledgeable. It was inconvenient because I don’t like parking my car outside, but I’m blessed that my car wasn’t on the inside because had my car been on the inside, I would have been stuck for three days. You cannot get through the customer service line if you call after 7:00 AM PT. Hold time is good 1 hour. I've been chasing a reimbursement for $496.82 for a microwave replacement I purchased since the repair is more than the new microwave for a claim on 3/31/18. I refiled my claim on June 2018 and still has not received the check. The departments I dealt with (Customer Service, Cash and Lieu, A/P) are saying I have to call the other that they're not able to assist me. I spoke with Solomon, Kathryn, Grace Sherri/Cherry and Drew and all don't know what's going on. I'm a realtor and I'm not confident on referring them to my clients.

We've had nothing but positive experiences with American Home Shield. My wife called them since there was a leak in her downstairs toilet, and they sent someone out to fix it. We usually file the claims over the phone because we've never been able to actually get logged in to the online system. We've tried, but we've had some issues with it, so we've always just done it over the phone.
Our interactions with the representatives have always been excellent. There wasn't any time that it was very difficult to get a hold of anybody, file the claim, get called back, and keep notified of exactly what's going on. Everybody was very nice and sympathetic to any problem that we were having. They just gotta keep that up. Also, the technicians always seem to do good work. We've only had one time that we've ever had to actually call them out a second time, and that was because something immediately happened right after that as well. But they've always been very cordial and very professional. I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I had broken springs in the dishwasher door and I called American Home Shield. I told them what the problem was and within that same day, I received a message telling me who would be contacting me about repairing it and that there would be a $100 service fee. The repairman contacted me and wanted to know when would be a good time to come. He was there the next morning and he was on time. He was very professional, polite and nice. My general expected experience with appliance repair people is that they charge you 65 to $100 to come out and then, they say what’s wrong with it. They go to the appliance parts house, get the parts, come back, fix it and they charge you some more. However, this technician had what he needed on his vehicle and 45 minutes later, he was gone.
I even had the model number and everything for the dishwasher if they needed it but he knew about how old it was. He got right on it and I'm very pleased. The dishwasher door doesn’t beat you in the legs when you try to open it now so, it was very satisfactory and everything worked fine. Our son-in-law and daughter in Houston, Texas recommended American Home Shield. They said they had very good experience with it over the years and so, we figured we would try it and so far, so good.
Good morning Hoyt,

I was having a problem with an ice maker. The water coming out of the water spout of the refrigerator tasted funny so I contacted AHS to send a repair person out. It was easy to submit the claim. I just logged on, submitted what the problem was, and what appliance it was. Then, I had an email back saying who was coming out. It took about three days for the contractor to come out. However, the contractors didn’t call and I always ended up having to go look up the contractor name and call them to make the appointment. My son has AHS too and we both have the same kind of issue.
Other than that, the contractors that came were polite and well-mannered. They were also on point with the issue and they usually have everything to fix it. The work that has been done was top-notch. I had AHS about 10 years ago, sold our house, just sold another house, and moved back to them. I’ve also advised my son to use the same and we bought it for him as his housewarming gift. I found online that there are a lot of companies that are using Google to manipulate the readers. But I know the tricks because I’m a writer. Most of the companies who try to put American Home Shield down are trying to promote their own and are paid services to do so.
Good morning Susan,

I had a plumbing claim recently and I tried all the things that they had taught me the first time, but the person who came out tried a couple of different things and said it needed to be replaced. He was very nice to work with me and my schedule. The window he said he could come was 8:00 to noon, and he didn’t end up being able to come ‘til 10:30. I had to be at work at noon and I had to drive 30 minutes, and he said, "No problem. I can come back Monday," because he didn't have the parts he needed.
He came back the Monday after and did the repair, and now the plumbing works fine and is even quieter. I've also had a couple of claims on my dryer, and one thing was fixed but 60 days later, another part was replaced. That took a long time to get resolved, but otherwise, I've been happy with everything. I make claims online on the AHS portal where you click which service you need, and it's pretty easy.

For the washing machine, the appliance guy came out, looked at it and said, “Your computer controller is burned up, and it costs about $1,000 a piece. They’ll probably wanna replace your washing machine.” So, he told American Home Shield that. They emailed us a selection of washing machines, we picked one out and got it.
Although, we had a real bad run with American Home Shield for a while. They didn't have any air conditioner people years ago, and we went over 30 days without air conditioning. Water was dripping from the back of the refrigerator, down into the bottom drawer and it was collecting there. It would freeze and make about a four inch layer of ice and when the ice got too much, water would drip out. So, something was wrong with the way the water went to the ice maker up to the dispenser. I filed a claim for that with American Home Shield and the people I talked to on the phone were very courteous and helpful and easy to talk to. It was the 4th time that we had the refrigerator repaired and the tech said that the issue was in the design of the machine. The tube, after a number of years, closes and the water doesn’t go the way it’s supposed to go. He said that it was not repairable and they would have to replace it. We did not find one that we liked on their list, so we went to Home Depot and found one within the price that they allowed.
Our experience was amazing. It’s hard to get AHS on the phone though and I have to wait a long time. Usually, I pick the 1 button and they call me back. I wish that was better. They then contacted another one that was supposed to come and report the actual issue.
Then I contacted Consumer Energy who came out and said that there was an issue with the burner that was running. When that wasn't running, it was down and that one, they could investigate. We then went back to American Home Shield and it took a while with different contractors. Finally, we got a furnace here where the heat exchanger was replaced and the one that Consumer Energy said was leaking gas was left alone because a certified company came in and said that that one was okay. That same evening, the contractor called and we set up our appointment for the following day. Then the service guy said that he was gonna come out between 3:00 and 6:00 but he actually came out earlier than 3:00. He was courteous and timely. It was cold when I called AHS because the furnace wasn’t working and when they said that it was 24 hours for them to contact me, that freaked me out a little because it was cold. Instead, the contractor got out here sooner than scheduled.
I told him what was going on with the furnace and he diagnosed it. He had the part with him, so he didn’t have to go back out to the truck and he fixed it right there. He was saying that this wasn’t at full capacity and it wouldn’t kick on. It had a safety mechanism on the furnace that will shut down after three tries trying to come on. It will shut down for three hours, then it would try to reboot or regenerate itself again, and if it didn’t, then it would shut down for another three hours. It was a safety mechanism to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and a fire and he explained it to me. I was aggravated that it wasn’t working right but it was also a safety mechanism for me and my family. All in all, AHS is good to have and I would recommend them.

I have two houses that are covered with American Home Shield. One is not my main residence, which is in Phoenix and being that there are renters there, it gets the most activity. My recent claim was for a leaky faucet. The company that went out did a good job and got the faucet fixed. They also noticed a few other issues and made some recommendations. Typically, when I have a claim, I phone them in. I've never had an issue getting a claim set up. However, I've had several bad experiences with the contractors. It's Arizona and it's always in a 110-degree heat when the AC goes out. So, it's a critical situation for everybody. The response time has not been good, but I get that everybody's busy that time of year.
Last year, they sent out whoever they chose and they seemed to try to put a Band-aid on something instead of addressing the issue, which led to longer delays in getting it repaired. They sent out multiple contractors. Their analysis for the situation was that it need to be replaced, and then they'd send somebody else out who would say, "Oh, there's no problem." So, there was all this back and forth. And the final resolution was just one contractor actually going out there and going above and beyond what he was supposed to do. AHS did not pay that company, and I sent them some money on the side because I appreciated their extra effort to get the problem resolved. But the companies that AHS was sending out weren't being thorough and weren't doing their job to begin with, which led to about two weeks worth of delays of where the AC was finally fixed.
Even with my AC unit here at my house, every year they come out and they're fine with putting and adding Freon to it, but they never check where it's leaking out. If you gotta keep adding something to a system, it's obvious that there's a leak somewhere. They don't wanna look for it because that would be a more costly repair.

Our heater wasn’t coming on and I filed the claim to American Home Shield online. I had a tech come out and he said it was one thing. I’m from a technical background and I didn’t take what the tech had said as being what was really going on with it but I humor him. The contractor arranged to have the work done about a week later which was fine because the temperature wasn’t that extreme that requires my heater to be working all the time.
The second tech came and said that it would cost $500 to fix. He would have to open the system up and replace the Freon. I said it would be fine. I went ahead and paid him the $500, and he started work. I asked him to run his own diagnostics on it first, and he did. It turned out that the system didn’t need to be opened up and the part didn’t need to be replaced, that needed to be replaced. I was glad that he took the time to objectively look at the system to ensure that what was being done was the correct thing and saved the $500 that I would have had to pay. As far as American Home Shield is concerned, they did everything that they needed to do.
I’ve called AHS out for an appliance repair and I was fine with the technician they sent out. Of course, it's basically a subcontractor of theirs that didn’t seem to really be able to offer solutions for what was going on with it. As far as their functionality and their transparency, everything I can tell from American Home Shield is exactly what they advertised. And I haven’t had any kind of hidden or unexpected charges associated with their service, or what they say online or in the commercials.

I bought the house over a year and a half ago, and it came with buyer's insurance for six months with American Home Shield. When that expired, I renewed for a year. We’ve had great companies come out as well as guys who were communicative, resourceful and who helped. The other claims experiences were wonderful and we were very happy. This is our first bad experience. The heater was getting hot and I could feel the fire come on. The thermostat was set to 80 and it was saying 55. Then, it shut off a minute later. The house wasn’t getting hot at all. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and navigating through the website was fine. However, it took AHS a week to get the contractors out.
When the contractors came out, they looked at the heater and told me that the gas valve needed to be up to code. We paid $155 for that. They replaced the gas valve and all the wiring but it didn’t fix the heater. They were going to come back and put a control panel out. I also kept smelling gas in the house and I realized they left the gas valve on, which I turned off myself. They came back again and put a control panel in. After being there for five hours, they told me that the control panel and the gas valve were not communicating with each other. They think that they were just gonna get a new unit. They left and I started smelling gas in my house again. They left the gas valve on again.
The week after that we heard from the company. They were trying to make an appointment to come out again. They said that they didn't say that they were gonna do a new unit. They said that they were gonna try a different control panel. They were supposed to come out Wednesday in between 10:00 and 2:00. They texted me at 10:30 that there was a family emergency and couldn't come out. They asked if they could come out the next day. I told them that it was unacceptable. I've had no heat for four weeks and we were supposed to have a winter weather storm this weekend. I have no heat in my house, with a kid and four dogs.
The girl told me on the phone that she would try to see if another tech will go pick up the part off from the guy's truck and they would try to make it that day or come the next day, which was yesterday. They should call me and let me know. That was at 11 o'clock in the morning. At 5 o'clock at night, nobody had called me. Their office closes at 5:00, so I called the next day. Because of a miscommunication, she changed my service from 8:00 to 12:00. When they didn't come by 12:00, I called and I was told that they changed my time to 3:00 to 7:00. I hurried home from my job and at 7:30 the tech calls me and told me they'd be there at 10:30. I have a camera thing on my doors that activate whenever they do anything. They came at 11:15 and I was asleep. They rang the doorbell, stood there for 30 seconds and then they left. They didn't try to call the house or call me.
I called 15 minutes later and asked where they were. They said they came by and nobody answered the door. They said that they were just a couple of minutes away and could come back. They took 45 minutes to come back to my house. It was midnight and all they did was take out the control panel they put on there and left. They didn't put a new control panel in and didn’t do anything they said they were going to do. Plus, they put on the receipt they gave me last night that they noticed there was a crack in my heat furnace. They said nothing nor did they look at it.
Thank you for sending me the invoices for reimbursement.

AHS sent a contractor to come out for our heat and it was working fine. Then about four days later, it stopped working again, so we put in another call to have the contractor come out. Thankfully, we were not obligated to pay another copay since it was already a recurring situation and we appreciated that. We normally submit our claims online and typically, they respond within 30 minutes. The most I've had to wait for someone to come out have been about a couple of days from discussing and that's been pretty good.
Also, the contractors AHS have sent have all been professionals. The first time we called AHS, we had a plumbing issue. The first guy that came wasn't able to resolve it so I called again to see if someone else could come out. The second guy that came had something that cleared the problem within five minutes and everything had been fine since. I've been telling people that they should go ahead and get AHS because it seems to be a pretty good service.

We had a pretty heavy rain and realized that our sump pump was not pumping as it should be. We had to manually play with the actual pipe that goes into the pump or the cord to get it to go off so we had to monitor our sump pump. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield on a Sunday. The contractor called me on Monday to schedule the appointment for Wednesday. They were excellent, very straightforward, came in and assessed the issues, fixed it, and cleaned up after themselves. It was just great interaction all around. They replaced the sump pump and it's been working ever since. I would call the same contractor again if I needed work done at my house.

The heat was out upstairs, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. I received an email with an offer for a preventative check-up for the heating system. It was worded a little confusingly because it said any additional problems found in the system would be $75 to fix. So, when the contractor came, they did the check-up but it was an extra work order to look at the upstairs heat which I didn’t know.
Technically, the system is that you would reschedule the next visit, but if I have known this in the first place, I would’ve just called for a work order. But the guys that came were really nice and ended up doing it right when they were making it work. Everything was resolved. American Home Shield was great. I appreciate them going above and beyond on taking care of the work order. But it would be better to have more details in their offers, like specify that it would require a second appointment if any problems were found from the preventative check-up.

While doing some work in the house, some faucets were discovered leaking. I submitted a claim with AHS online and it was simple and easy to do. Then the techs showed up to fix the faucets and while they were doing that work, I started the dishwasher and it quit on me. So, I filed a second claim within a day and all my interactions with the contractors were perfect. One time, I've had a bad experience with AHS where the situation was very difficult and it took an abhorrent amount of time to repair. But we worked through it.

Our furnace stopped turning on and the first time I filed the claim, I called and got a voice automated system. I gave them my claim number and they told me they scheduled the appointment. When I had to have the techs come out again, I went to the AHS website which was very streamlined. When you submit a claim, you would get a text message notifying that a claim was submitted. Then, the tech calls you. If you schedule an appointment, they automatically text you and tell you when the appointment is gonna be.
The furnace stopped and on the day they arrived, it started working again. They couldn't really do much. Then it stopped working again and they came out a second time. It started working then it went out the third time. This time, they figured out what the problem was and they're coming out on Saturday for the fourth time. Hopefully, they replace that one part and fix it once and for all. The contractors were great and I would recommend American Home Shield.

I pay for American Home Shield every month and I did the 125 deductible, which is very reasonable. It covered all my appliances, the heating and air. I recently sent in a claim for a piece for our furnace. They have a guy here in town, and he came out fairly quickly, looked at it, and knew what it was. He filled out the paperwork and he sent it back to American Home Shield the next day, which worked out real well. I checked with American Shield about three or four days later, and they said they were having trouble getting the parts because my furnace is older.
I checked back with American Home Shield the week of Thanksgiving and they had the part. They said that the parts would go directly to the guys that would fix it. I needed to check with the tech because he haven't come out and do it. I called in on Wednesday of Thanksgiving, and I was hoping he would be in that week, but he wasn't. They called me back on Monday and came out on Tuesday and fixed it. It took a little while, but it was because of the holiday. The tech very nice. He was very friendly and he immediately went and didn't waste any time and came back and told me what it was. I settled the paperwork they said and handed it to him the next day. We had a little glitch the other day with the furnace, but other than that, it seems to be fine. I'm satisfied with my experience. American Home Shield did a great job.

I've had the American Home Shield warranty program since I bought the house last January, and I always forget that. Then something was wrong with the heating AC system and I was like, "Wait, I have a warranty." So I called them and it was very streamlined. The claims process was pretty easy. I talked to a live person and she was very nice. It was funny 'cause she submitted the request, and she told me that the technician would get with me within a few hours to schedule something. But as she was telling me this, there was a number calling in and that was the technician. So, that was pretty fast.
I got the phone with her and called the technician back, and they happen to be in my area. The tech asked if he could swing by and within 45 minutes to an hour and a half of being off the phone, he was here. He was very friendly, nice and professional. He explained a bunch of different things that the system that I have and he replaced the thermostat. He's hoping that that was the only issue, and so he went and diagnosed the system.
It was funny 'cause he turned the AC on, and when we were outside, he was checking the outside unit, checking the Freon, and level in the AC system. Then, he unlocked and I went to walk back in my front door and it was almost 75. We had a heat at 76 when he got here, it was still kinda cold and so it works. He even showed me how to use the new thermostat too. He told me that if there were other problems, I could always call him back and he'd resend back out here and then we'd go from there. So far, everything seems to be working like it should. Even if I didn't have the warranty group, I know now who I wanna call out for AC repairs and heating repairs now. But AHS seemed like a really a good company and I would recommend them.
My warranty goes out next month and I’ve gotta renew. It takes out all of the hassles because AHS screens the companies they use and everything else too. Being able to call one person to get stuff done is so much easier. It's nice knowing that if there is an issue, I can just pick up the phone, call them, and it's taken care of. Even with what I have to pay, it's still affordable because I just pay the $75 service fee and they take care of everything else. I live on my disability income and I have a fixed income, so for me, it's worth it. I even told my kids, my 19-year-old, that it's always better to have a lot of insurance and warranties and never need them, than never have it and then needing it, and then looking at big bulks because whether it's health or car insurance, you keep full coverage even it's been paid off. You just never know, it's just always better.

I usually call to submit a claim to American Home Shield so that I know for sure that somebody was taking the information. I get their name and so, I can say, “I spoke to so and so, and this is what we're doing.” Most of the people AHS sends out are okay but some of them are not great. We had a well pump replaced some years ago and the person they sent gave us a hard time. He asked how deep the well was and when I said 300 feet, he said it was too deep and they couldn’t do it. The second one called out and said the same thing. I was thinking what was going on. AHS was reluctant to pay but they did. We also had a stove replaced last year and the people that put it in didn’t know what they were doing. It blew up and our house almost caught on fire. That was pretty bad.
When a gentleman from MR Heating and Air Conditioning came out, he was phenomenal. I was extremely satisfied and I would recommend them to other people because the guy was honest. He was a very smart guy and knew what it was before he has been out there. Maybe it's the typical thing you see 90% of the time, so he knew right away, but it doesn’t matter. He did what he could. He was there an hour and got the stuff done. He said what the deal was and he was out of there. I went back to work. I was thinking I'm done for the day because he was gonna be there the whole day until the afternoon but in the length of time he was there, he got it done. The overall experience was just really good. I got treated right and stuff was done correctly.

Every other call that I make to American Home Shield, I don't get any service. It's worth the money, but it's not a great service. The last claim I submitted to American Home Shield was for our garage door and it ended up not being covered so I had to pay out of my pocket. They covered the opener, but they don't cover the garage door itself, and some of this doesn't make any sense to me. But the contractor was fantastic and I'll recommend him to anybody I know. He told me that my policy covered the opener but not the door. He told me how much it would cost to get the door fixed, so I had it fixed and he did a wonderful job.
American Home Shield needs to replace things instead of trying to fix the junk that's there. I've had a bad experience with my air conditioning. Their contractors were coming out three times a year to repair and patch instead of replacing. I had to replace it out of my own pocket. For most things, American Home Shield is satisfactory. But for the big things, it frustrates the hell out of me. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield to everybody because it's the best home insurance policy out there. I may not be satisfied with the way they do things, but in the end run, it has saved me a lot of money.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my heating unit. The furnace would stop after starting and running for only about five or 10 minutes. It continued to do that and the first technician that came out tried everything but couldn’t figure the issue out. I have a Nest Thermostat and it has the ability to reset it. They required that I manually restart the furnace and I was able to do that to stay warm until they could get it fixed. American Home Shield sent out another technician and he was able to solve the problem. It has been working fine and I’m happy about it.
I called AHS back for another issue I was having and they are still waiting on trying to find a part for me, and it has been about a week now. I told them that my temperature regulator on my shower doesn't alter. It stays lukewarm, although the rest of the water gets hot and there’s not much pressure. The fellow told me that the unit wasn’t probably allowing the water to get through because it’s an old unit. They would have to try to replace it, find a duplicate, or put a different unit in. That is the situation now and I’m waiting for them to get back in touch with me so they can do that.
The man who was here initially said that he would call me back the next day, but he didn’t. I called their office the following Monday, but I didn’t get an answer, so I called American Home Shield and the lady there was very helpful. She said she would get in touch with them. She did and she called back and left a message that she got in touch with them and they were still looking for the part. The service provided by American Home Shield has been decent, but I would have liked to have heard back more from them by now or tell me, “Well, if we can’t find a unit, we’re gonna put something else in there.”

However, AHS representative on the phone who told me the claim is denied due to pre-existing condition. Anyway, how is it pre-existing condition when it broke when I was showing? And why plumber does not have other option such as cut off the bolt other cut open the wall the cut the pipe? No matter how you look at it, customer is the loser. After total of 2 hours waiting time (had to call them multiple times because they hang up) on the phone one agent answered and seemed to tried to find out what happened, then she said 'you're right we'll refund you in 3-5 business days'.
10 days later which is today I didn't see the refund so called them, waited 45 min. to talk to someone, talked to her for 15 min. she said my premium is $ooo.oo (which was $250 more than I was expected) so I said I won't buy insurance from you if I know the amount, do you have an agreement with me with that amount? She replied yes. But she doesn't have my signature, she cannot send me via email, she can only read the agreement on the phone. She said she needs to get a specialist, - ok...another waiting time of 30 min. then they hang up.
I called credit card company to dispute, they asked me "did you aware of that they have your credit card number stored as autopay?" No! I purchased a home warranty policy with American Home Shield of California. I did so because the home I had just purchased was 10 years old and I figured some of the appliances might be nearing their end-of-life. In August, we started experiencing problems with our built-in refrigerator so we called AHS and they sent out a 3rd party contractor from Ace Appliance. The contractor determined the electric panel needed to be replaced and ordered the part. Unfortunately, the part was on back order because the model of our KitchenAid refrigerator is no longer made.
Weeks and months went by and we heard nothing. Every time we called to follow up we were told the same thing - "we are waiting for the part and there is no ETA". Well, 3 months later our refrigerator finally stopped working. It stopped working the day before Thanksgiving and, of course, all of our food spoiled. I called AHS and was told that as long as the appliance could hypothetically be fixed they would not replace the refrigerator regardless of how long it took to get the back ordered part. I asked if they would replace the refrigerator if the part did not arrive after waiting 3, 6, or even 12 months and they said no. As a result, I folded and bought a new refrigerator on my own. I am obviously very disappointed with American Home Shield and feel like I have been scammed. Buyer Beware.

The technician only had 3 months experience. He put some soap water around a few areas and could not find a leak although the system was down 2 pounds. He did not use a leak detector and had never heard of them.
After complaining, they sent out a second technician. From another low-quality provider. This technician had just 6 months experience. The system was now down 2 pounds. This technician filled the system with GAS, yes, GAS. Not the proper fluid. He said if there was a leak, the GAS would be detected. Almost blew up my system. Again, he said there was no issue even though I lost about a pound of fluid in about 2 weeks. I showed him exactly where the leak was from a leak detector that I had borrowed. I contacted AHS and told them what happened and I filed a complaint ‘cause they ended up sending another contractor out, who said it was just my thermostat and a blown fuse. The contractor fixed it within an hour and he was great. AHS was right on it and also refunded my $125 fee because of the issues.
The last claim I had was for a clogged drain coming out of my washer. AHS assigned it to somebody and it was right before the Thanksgiving holiday. The company was supposed to come out on a Friday, after Thanksgiving, and they never showed up. The stove still worked but the spring was cracked so it didn’t qualify for a replacement. They no longer had parts for repairs on the dryer so they’re actually replacing it. I’ll have a new dryer that will supposed to be delivered on Saturday which I’m sure is gonna be pushed back because of the weather we have coming in. Overall, I’m satisfied with the service and the result. I have recommended and I would recommend American Home Shield to my friends.

We had our oven repaired and the vendor that American Home Shield sent was fine. He did a good job. He came back and adjusted things when they weren’t quite right. However, I've had three claims now and it just seemed to be getting through. When we had an air conditioner replaced this summer, it took two and a half weeks. They had a vendor that we weren’t satisfied with but they were able to switch to a local vendor eventually who finally repaired it. Also, getting calls into the system was so difficult. Once we get through and a vendor gets assigned, it seemed to go well but especially on a weekend, it's impossible to get through without being on hold for almost an hour.
We had my daughter, her friend and us. There were four days where it was excruciating hot and we had to have fans all over. It was 90 degrees in the house so, that was very discomforting. AHS usually use a different firm but they didn’t do anything right and didn’t get it fixed properly. The vendor that we had in Walla Walla had to be authorized separately and ended up fixing it. They finally figured out the right thing to do with it. It also had to be cleaned thoroughly and the local vendor did that. So, it worked well. However, we ended up replacing it on our own because I was so nervous with the difficulties we were having.
Hi, Mike. We are pleased to know that your oven was taken care of quickly yet regret to learn that your A/C took so long to repair. I completely understand your reasoning for replacing the unit on your own. A member of our Social Media team will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns.

I wish American Home Shield, like other companies out there, has their own licensed people that do the job. I'm upset with the fact that they have to subcontract everything out. It’s a problem when their contractors don't call the customer back and they don't report to the customer on the findings or the completion. And it has happened to me before that a contractor never even called me for an appointment. Now, I have leak, and I'm at the mercy of the company that AHS contacted to contact me.
Given the leak that is dripping, you would think that the situation would be a priority. AHS told me that they would expedite things, but that's not true because I've had this leak for three weeks and it's still not fixed. I had one company come out that AHS got for me, who said it's fixed. Five hours later, it was leaking. I had to call that gentleman back and he never answered the phone. So obviously, I don't wanna use them anymore. I got somebody else that seems to be good.
The other problem with AHS is trying to get through to someone live. Then with all the automated stuff, you repeat yourself 10 times. It’s almost 2019, and technology is taking over, but AHS’ automated system is terrible. Sometimes I get a recording asking if I would like them to call me back, because the wait time is over 40 minutes. Yes, that would be good. But sometimes that does not happen. I'm on hold forever and nobody tells me anything about a callback. Then on one of the times that it worked and they called me back, I was told I was next in line, but I still waited 30 minutes. And if they would have to call me back each time that I called, then that should be part of the automated system. As a customer, it's very, very frustrating not to be able to get to somebody, and I should be able to get to a customer service rep fairly quickly. I've used AHS a few times. Sometimes the process is very smooth but sometimes it's a disaster.

The refrigerator decided to die on me and American Home Shield contracted with Active Appliance Services. They came out and it was not the best experience. It was working intermittently. That was the problem. Also, the tech and the whole company was rude. When I made calls to them, they hang up the phone and it was a really bad experience. I escalated it on within American Home Shield. I had to go through one of our contacts in American Home Shield to get to that problem resolution area. They contracted in Magic Appliance that was more delightful to work with and they were able to resolve the issue.

We had some uneven distribution of heat in the house. In one area of the house, we didn’t seem to be getting any air coming out of the vent. We submitted the claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor was very professional, did well and explained things very nicely. It's just nice to know that they knew what they needed to do. We have been using American Home Shield just this year and they’re doing a really good job. It's easy to get on the computer, put in what the issue is, and then be able to get somebody to come out and respond. It is a good system and it works out.

I was having power problems and I needed an electrician here. I spoke to a rep at American Home Shield and they called an electrician then they called me to make the date. I called on Friday and the contractor finally came on a Saturday. He came at 5 o'clock. The guy had been working all day. He looked at my box and said what was wrong. He switched all the little things and the power was on. He was great. Everything has been operating well since then. We've been with American Home Shield for two years now and I feel very good that I have this insurance on my things here.

One of our homes had a refrigerator go out so we turned it in. American Home Shield sent Sears to do the work and the contractor was awesome and did a good job. However, the lag time between the time we turned it in and when the service actually came was a little slow as it took a little over a week. I didn’t hear back from them after the service agent turned in his report so I had to call after the service call. They called me back and right after a little bit, we were able to come to a resolution. They gave us the money less the deductible to replace the refrigerator and so far, so good.

I called American Home Shield due to a leak in the garbage disposal at the bottom. We've been here 17 years and then all of a sudden, it's been leaking a little bit. It kept leaking more and more and finally, we had a pan underneath it. American Home Shield told me they would get somebody out the following day. It was outstanding how their rep did the communication, the clarity of it, and their willingness to find somebody that would come right out. And the contractor was also fantastic. He was great-mannered, with good form and was well-informed about all the situations we were asking about. He brought the part that they had pre-ordered because that was a possibility. So, in about 30 minutes, he was finished. We got a new garbage disposal and things have been superb since. We also had a concern about a faucet that we wanted to change, and I took the guy's recommendation and it was absolutely perfect. We appreciated his attitude.
Every contractor that AHS had sent out, whether for fixing the microwave, the stove or the disposal, had been fantastic. We had a guy here one time for the air conditioner and he was very well-informed and had great attitude. The contractors were competent, quick and very responsive. And the prices that AHS has on a monthly basis are very reasonable. So, I recommend AHS all the time.

Last November 20, I called for a service and American Home Shield sent Royal Air to come to my apartment to check my heater. On the first day, the tech stayed for an hour but he couldn't do anything. He told me somebody would come later, but until 5:00 in the afternoon, nobody came. Then my friend called again and the next day, somebody came. I was very unhappy and I complained all the time why I had to do this.
I asked the tech to send me a report and he said that the heater was just very dirty. I also asked the contractor that if my heater or whole unit was broken, then they should send me a quote and they should decide if I had to fix the heater or to change it. I called the company and asked the technician to call me back but until today, nobody called. American Home Shield is also like that and when I call them, the customer service tells me a supervisor will call me back but nobody does. And the first two times, the phone just discontinued when I was in the middle of speaking. But one lady was very nice and helped me.
It was winter and I couldn't stay in the cold so I called another company who came right after. I was fine with American Home Shield before and that was why I renewed it. This time, I won't recommend my friends to use AHS because it's harder to communicate with them. Also, when I call, I have to spend an hour or more to listen to their beautiful music.
Good afternoon Yieng,

I've had issues with American Home Shield before. This all started back in 2013. We had a leak in our house and they sent over a plumber, who said that his best guess was that the leak was coming from the shower pan. But I told him that it was coming from under the floor 'cause it was coming up through the ground in the tile. So, he was wrong.
My wife also told him that she heard a noise on the wall in the guest bathroom and he ignored her. My brother-in-law had a stethoscope and pinpointed the leak. The plumber still ignored us. AHS took plumber’s side and said that they weren't gonna fix it. So, I had to call another plumber out of Taylor Texas, then we found a leak in the other bathroom which should have been covered by AHS. He went over there and went right exactly where the water was said to be leaking. He opened up the wall and replaced the pipes. Once he fixed it, AHS told me that they didn't call that, so they were not paying for it.
AHS supposedly has a remediation thing, but it's all based on their initiatives. I went through the remediation thing and tried to get reimbursed for that plumber. I sent mail to the post office and emails too, but they ignored me and didn't return my calls. There needs to be more competition out there. I do know the nature of the business. It’s hard to make money in that kind of a business, I understand that because they don't have any idea what people are getting into.
Also in 2013, there was an issue with the toilet in the master bathroom and AHS sent a plumber over and fixed it. Two years later, we had the same problem. The plumber came over and fixed it. Here it is, 2018, we have the same problem. Another plumber came over and he said that the toilet wasn't installed right, so AHS said that they were not covering it. I didn't fight with them over that because they said that they have to go by what the plumber said. I said, "This is the third time. If it wasn't installed right, why did the other two plumbers never say anything about it and they fixed it." It seems to me AHS looks for reasons not to fix that.
Something is wrong down there but AHS can't say for sure that it wasn't installed properly because this is the third plumber that looked at it. The other two fixed the toilet fine, and it worked fine for two years. AHS is saying now that they're gonna send a plumber over for a second opinion. I said, "Well, what's gonna keep him from saying, 'Yeah, it looks like an improper install' and then, we're gonna be back to square one." In the meantime, I got a toilet sitting over on top of the floor, we got a hole in the floor, we got rug stuff in there, but what am I paying for?
AHS's service is terrible. If it's something quick, fast and in a hurry, that they don't have to spend a whole lot of money, they fixed it with no problem. But if it's something that looked like it may actually, cost a few dollars, they find a reason not to cover it. Normally, I submit a claim with AHS online and that's easy to do. They've just replaced a garbage disposal. But with my washing machine, the repair guy came over five times before he finally got it fixed. And then, twice on the dryer 'cause the dryer went out right after. Once AHS agrees to fix something, the quality of work is okay. But most of the time, when it comes to plumbing, they don't wanna fix anything.

There were a few plumbing issues that I was trying to get resolved and it was frustrating that they sent out a plumber from one company but he did not resolve it. AHS sent him back and he still didn't resolve it. Then, we had an issue with another toilet but AHS wouldn't let the plumber address that. Instead, I had to submit another claim. I assumed they would send the same guy that had been coming but they switched companies on me. I just had that company do everything, and they took care of it. It made me think why they sent the first guy when he has not resolved the first issue two times. AHS should stay consistent with the companies that they send out. Plus, I paid $75 every time they came. I've had a plumber out three or four times, and I paid that $75 fee the same number of times.
The plumber said the blockage in our toilet would only be covered by American Home Shield if he could get to it through the outside access. They wouldn't cover it if he had to snake it from the toilet. So, I paid $100 since the plumber had to do it from there rather than from outside the house. It has to be very specific. The contractor said he could unplug it and the stoppage should be covered by the warranty. It should not matter which direction he unplugged it from.

We had a number of appliances that weren’t working properly and were breaking down so AHS had a service technician come out and look at them. We had two different rounds of ordering parts, and a couple of the appliances have been replaced, and a couple are still in process. Submitting the claim is really easy. You just get online, log into your account and submit a claim using the online web form. It's not super detailed. You're just kind of putting your claim up to four items on one claim, and then the dispatch sends you a text confirming that you've put in a claim, and then within 24 hours, the service contractor contacts you. They would ask for more information then make an appointment to send out a tech to look at your items.
The contractors, for the most part, were super friendly. It sounds like they generally send out somebody just to look at it and order parts first, so it's not necessarily the fastest process in the world but I'm assuming that every process would have to go that way. It would have to come in and check the appliances and then decide what parts you need and then order the parts. We've been waiting on a couple of rounds of parts for our dishwasher and refrigerator for a while now. And if the contractor can't find the parts, American Home Shield finds them for us, and then they come in and install them. So, with the back and forth, it can take a little while but generally, it seems like it's really worth it cost-wise.
The washer and dryer needed to be replaced because the parts were not available. We have a very small opening to our basement so there's only one brand that we can purchase. But American Home Shield didn’t offer that brand, so we ended up purchasing them ourselves, and they are sending a reimbursement check for that. The one thing would just be it takes a little time to get things finished. I can't choose the contractors. They sort of just assign a contractor to you, but for the most part, even if things are going slowly, as long as I call and get in contact, I can get people to quickly respond.
AHS has been really great so far. I've been impressed with the amount of coverage that we get. We've also been able to do some electrical work and plumbing work that really needed to get done, and both of them went really well too. It's an easy process. I would definitely recommend them to friends, especially friends who are buying a new house and friends who are buying a "new" old house

The contractor came out to fix my oven. It was giving me an error code. AHS called me once they found out that the replacement part was no longer available. The manufacturer doesn’t make it anymore. AHS told me that they could either give me so much money for it or they would send it in for replacement. They ended up taking the part and rebuilding it. Once they got the part, it took about five before it could be installed into my oven. The contractors were good though.

I usually submit claims through the technician. If it's something that they can fix when they're here, it's just done then they put in the claim with American Home Shield. Most recently, our microwave was making a humming sound and sparking. When the technician came out, he said that it was normal mechanical failure and that at some point, it must have arced. Behind the inside panel, there's a burn mark where the metal melted. He said that the microwave is a fire hazard now and he told us not to use it until the claim process.
About a year ago, we also had a problem with the microwave but it didn’t make the sound or do the sparking. The handyman who was sent out never opened the panel on the inside and noticed the problem. So we wound up using it and having the occasional sound and spark. We didn’t know exactly what was going on until now and thankfully, nothing happened during that time. The gentleman who came this time actually knew of the handyman before and he thought that the handyman was not a reliable electrician. In comparison, the gentleman we had this time was knowledgeable and very helpful. He told us what to expect and we were very appreciative.

I called American Home Shield, sat on the phone for over an hour and they picked up. I was talking to them, and then they put me on hold. It somehow disconnected me and nobody ever called me back. My husband called, sat on hold for an hour, and then the call disconnected. Our HVAC died and the only way I've been able to get a hold of American Home Shield is over the internet. We have had people out about three times and the first contractor that was sent out showed up almost two hours after the three-hour window they requested we'd be at home for. We were out of town and by that point, the people we had at the house already left.
We had to reschedule with them and the second time, they were late again, but not by nearly as much. After that, they were good at being responsive. They had to order two different parts and never called me to tell me they came in or to schedule to come out, so I stayed on top of calling them to find out when the part came in so they would come out and install it. On the other hand, the second company was quick and thorough. They came out yesterday and gave me the information I needed, but American Home Shield wanted a second opinion to decide how to fix our heating unit in the middle of winter.
They requested another company come out, and then they canceled that appointment and never scheduled with another company. We have an older system, so it's been really hard to diagnose what's wrong with it. I appreciate that people continue to come and try to figure it out when things have gone wrong. I'm happy with the quality of work and I'm glad we carry the warranty, but it is a little difficult to talk to a person and get a problem solved quickly.

I put in the request on a Saturday and that following Monday the company contacted me and came out within 30 minutes of when they told me they would be there. I told the contractor what was wrong and he went up into the attic and diagnosed what the problem was. The igniter had gone bad. He then went back to his truck, got a replacement and installed it. He was finished within an hour and we have heat now.
I've had two other claims with AHS and I've been very impressed with the quality of the people they send out. They fixed the problems. We had some things with the pool that had to be fixed as well. Having the warranty is pretty valuable. Our house is an older house. It felt like getting the warranty was a good investment to cover some of the equipment, especially since we have a pool. Let me first say that I acquired this warranty by switching escrow companies at the last minute and it has truly been worthless. I've tried to put in 3 claims now and to be totally fair, my last claim was partially my fault. I took advantage of their promotion to pay $75 and get a furnace check-up and had to cancel my appt at the last minute so AHS would not refund the $75 I pay. However this happened after previously trying to put in multiple claims for my plumbing. That was a nightmare filled with claim operators purposefully leaving out key information about my reported claims, REALLY long hold times just to get someone on the phone, and useless supervisor escalations only to be given a vague and inaccurate rejection of my claim because the company tries to reject its responsibility. Take your business elsewhere or save your money.

AHS use to be a great company and I have sent many referrals but that has completely changed. It is VERY difficult to get problems resolved. Time and time again the contractors don't finish the job but say they have to get paid. There are multiple reasons why I stopped using AHS but when they continue to confirm they don't care about long term customers, it's time to move. Do a little research and you will find there are better companies that cost less and have lower deductibles.

The contractors were friendly, professional and they took care of the issue and it only took that one visit and the washing machine was up and running. All in all, I’ve enjoyed the warranty. My dishwasher was messed up and I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. The tech whom they sent took the dishwasher apart and had to order parts. Thereafter, he put the parts on but then, the machine started being messed up again, so he had to come back out. Still, everything has been great since then. One of our appliances though was a couple of days over the allotted time for somebody to come back, which is 60 days, and we ended up having to pay another service fee. Sometimes when they put new parts on, it takes longer for it to get oiled up and get used enough to possibly have a problem again. If they've put in new parts, they should give it a little bit longer time. Also, it'd be nice if I could à la carte pick things in my package. I had to buy a bunch of stuff I’m not gonna use in order to cover certain things. Other than those issues, AHS is great for people as long as it's something they'll use.

The handle on my stove broke three months ago, but we were not sure we wanted to file a claim. But then, the display on the stove started acting out too, so we decided to file a claim. We did it online because it was faster. The AHS reps as well as the contractors have been very professional and nice. When the contractors first came, they assessed the problem and they told us they were going to check with AHS to see what they were gonna do. It was during the holiday, so I didn’t hear from them. And on Tuesday, after Thanksgiving, I called the provider directly and find out what was going on. They said they had ordered the parts, and they were waiting on parts. They also said that they were gonna be receiving the part within the next day. I got a call the next morning that the part was in, and they came the next afternoon. So far, we have not had any bad experience with AHS. Everything has been positive.

I called American Home Shield for my washer that was making a noise, and for the refrigerator that just stopped working. Submitting claims for those went well, although it was not a simple process because AHS puts me on hold for quite a while whenever I call. This time, I stayed on the phone for 11 minutes but hold times can range up to 30 minutes. And then, they call me back.
Then once they send out their contractors, some are very good but there's a language barrier with some. I have that problem with one appliance company that AHS has sent out. But the techs are always polite and they usually get the job done. Then if there's any complaint, they come right back. And now, another technician is coming out to work on the refrigerator because the original one that was sent out couldn’t do the job. AHS was very prompt in finding another company that could do it. I am very satisfied with their service and I’ve recommended them to quite a few people.

I ended up in a situation where I own four houses, and I couldn't maintain them so I took out these insurance policies. Within three months, my air conditioner went out and I got it fixed. I submitted a claim for it online at American Home Shield and I got a response to the email within 24 hours, but the contractor took a couple of days to get here. When they came, the first guy couldn't fix it and he needed somebody else. The other person had a medical situation in his family so it took 10 days to get it fixed. But they were very nice and professional, and the air conditioner has been operating fine since then. I've been enjoying the AHS warranty and I've recommended it. I've only used it one time, but it gives me a little bit of peace of mind and feel a little security since I have four houses that I'm trying to keep up.

For more than three years, I've been with American Home Shield and any time I call on them, they make sure they are there and they answer me. They have excellent reps who always solve my problem. In fact, I called them when the lights in my microwave started flickering. The extension just went off and the microwave stopped working. This was last week. American Home Shield's contractors also do a great job all the time too. Each and every one of them that came to the house, made sure their job was done.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Beatrice. We look forward to handling your future claims. Have an amazing weekend.

I've had an awesome experience with American Home Shield. I call in my claims and the contractors they have sent out have been fabulous. They have been so polite, nice. and incredible and they take care of the problem in a minute. It's very incredible and I've been so pleased with their service. Once, I had a claim for my bathroom toilet that was continually running. The guy fixed it in a minute and I loved it.

American Home Shield has always helped me with whatever I need to have done in my home. The only thing is that it takes a while to get through to them on the phone. But once we get through, they're very nice and they take care of whatever needs to be done efficiently. They handle everything really well. I recently called them about my dishwasher and the reps that I spoke with were very polite, professional and helpful. They sent out Dirt Cheap Appliance Repair, and Antoine did an awesome job of fixing my dishwasher. He had to order a motor for the dishwasher and then come back to put it in. I haven't used the dishwasher since but he checked it and everything appeared to be good. He also worked on my ice maker before that and fixed it. AHS is doing a good job.

I called American Home Shield four times and I requested service for the furnace. The lady rep who talked with me two weeks ago told me that rust is covered by my insurance. But when the technician came to check, he said it wasn't covered. My insurance only covers it if it's rust and the unit is not working. But with my furnace, everything is working normally and the only problem is the rust. There was a lot of rust though.
I've been with American Home Shield for three years now and I like them because they cover plumbing, electrical and the appliances. Sometimes we accidentally break something. When I have to replace my appliances, I call them. When my bathroom was leaking, American Home Shield had everything fixed. That was good. But although they cover everything in the house, I have to pay more, and for me, it's a lot of money. I have a mortgage to pay on this house and I pay $800-$900 for this insurance every year. Their service and the coverage are so expensive and it's too much for me. I wanna put insurance only for my appliances. I don’t want insurance for plumbing and electrical issues. My wife and I cook every day and I need insurance only for my stove, air conditioning, furnace, dryer, washer and refrigerator.

I was having plumbing issues with my toilet and faucet and an electrical issue with my doorbell. I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield and I got a response from them within 24 hours. The contractors then came and they were both great with regard to their personality, professionalism, and knowledge of the problem and solution. They fixed my doorbell, toilet, and sink in one day.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and the site was easy to use. However, calling in wasn’t so pleasant. There had been three times when I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes, and I don’t have the patience for that. That was in the heat of the summer last year. I was gonna cancel my membership but I thought that I didn’t have that many things left that could go wrong, so I kept it. And I’m glad I did because I had to replace my filtration system and it cost me $125. The guy that did it was fantastic. He came out right away and got it done in a couple of days.
A board went out on my microwave recently. The contractor contacted me right away and he came out quickly. He had to order a part so he came back the following week and put in the part. He was very professional, polite and was on time. And he got it fixed. My initial experience with American Home Shield was not good, but it has gotten better, so I will be keeping it for now.
