American Home Shield is on top of things and they do what they say they're gonna do. We’ve been with them for quite a while and I would never go to another company because I know what I got with American Home Shield. I have a friend whose hot water heater ran out and it cost over 1,200 bucks. I told her that if she would've had American Home Shield, she would've paid $75. She asked for their number so she could sign up. I gave her AHS' number.
I typically don’t have a problem with American Home Shield's reps when filing claims. They take care of me and I get off the phone. It’s pretty painless. I like specific contractors AHS has too. Typically, I have A & J Sales and Prescott & Sons. They could come to my house every day and not have a problem. They do what they’re supposed to do. They’re in and out.
But there's one contractor that I will not allow back to my house, Moos Plumbing. He was in and out of my house seven times before he said he was done but my faucets were still leaking. Most recently, I called American Home Shield since my dishwasher wouldn’t open or release soap. The contractor claimed to have fixed the problem, but it's still not fixed.

I had a leak that I needed to be found and it was easy to submit that claim to American Home Shield. I did it online and the website was easy and seamless to navigate through. It was a good experience. I was advised that within 24 hours, I’d be contacted by Bubba’s Plumbing and I was. The contractor was also friendly, helpful and timely. When he came in, he introduced himself and asked me where I thought the problem was. I showed him where I was hearing the running and he checked it out. Then he told me what they thought it was.
It actually wasn’t even a leak. We’ve been in this house for a year and there was an outside faucet on the side of the house that we never even go to. I’ve had my yard guys and somehow, the faucet was just turned on. I didn’t even know that was over there because I never go to that side of the house. So the contractor found that and it was simple. It has been good since and it got the city off my back because they were the ones who told me I had a leak. So it helped and saved money.

My gas heat unit wasn’t heating and when I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, it was simple doing it online. I've been with them for a year and I haven’t had any problems with them. I've used them three times this year and my experience with their reps was a good deal. The contractor came right out, but the one AHS sent out for the heat and air got busy as it got cold that day. It was the first real cold snap and it was three days before they could put me on schedule. I was expecting that it might have been within a day. I didn’t like it, but I have seen that their contractor has been overwhelmed with a bunch of repairs. Other than that, the quality of every repair has been good and I haven’t had any problems that they had to come back.

The oven wouldn’t hold the temperature and American Home Shield sent somebody here to see what was wrong. The contractor said that he needed to replace some parts but the parts were gonna be really expensive. American Home Shield decided to replace the entire appliance. They had the Whirpool gas range delivered and Star Services came out and installed it. The two guys did a good job. One of the guys was very nice but the other one had a bit of an attitude. This is my home and he told me that I needed to be quiet and let him do his job. I reminded him that he was in my home. Nonetheless, they did the job they were sent to do, so that’s all I wanted.
My experience in submitting claims was okay. It’s just that AHS is like a lot of big companies wherein they run their call services out to different countries. And so, I had a hard time communicating with the lady that I spoke to. It was a little bit hard to understand her at times. That was not a big issue, but we didn’t communicate really well. I'm going on two years now with American Home Shield and so far, their work has been of excellent quality. They were really efficient, were here on time and everything was done exactly as it should’ve been. I would highly recommend them.

The air conditioning was running but it wasn’t cooling and after I submitted the claim to American Home Shield’s website, the contractor came out within 24 hours. He fixed it but he had to come back a week later for the same problem. I had to pay again but it was not his fault. There were some kind of defects on the part that he put on which was an unusual situation. To fix it, he replaced the entire part.

The contractors that American Home Shield have sent out in the past were okay. I submitted a claim online 4 days ago about my toilet that is not sitting right on the floor and that needed to be fixed. However, I didn’t receive any calls in connection to that claim until now.

I’m very dissatisfied with AHS and I was getting to the point of canceling. I filed a claim and received an email from them. They were very good about giving out the first email once I did the claim to set it up. I saw the number and the name of the company. I got to text them right away, then they wanted me to call in 24 hours. A woman called the next day and she scheduled the appointment the following day. She said it would be from 7:00 to 9:00 AM. I’m in California and it was 4:00 to 6:00 here. I woke up and I was ready for the phone call, but they didn’t call. I waited for 9:00 and I called the company a few times, but there was no answer. They should be awake or open because it was their hours. The message said that I must leave the whole dispatch number or they won’t be able to help me.
The woman I talked to didn’t call back that day at all. A guy called me at about 9:45 and said that he was running late. He didn’t call me during the window time that he’d be late but I told him to come on out. He came here and did the thing. There were a few outlets that were out, but he fixed only one. I wasn’t there, so I didn’t see him fix it, but my friend came to check it and she said that the other outlet wasn’t working. I texted the guy and he said to call AHS. I called AHS and spoke to somebody. That was on a weekend and the guy said they'd come back out again, but that didn’t happen.
The next day, the company called me once and I missed the call. I had the same problem that I had earlier when I called them. Nobody ever answered the phone. I think it’s one of those mobile companies where they wanna call you, but you can’t call them back. The woman also told me she was by herself so I think it is a very small operation. She didn’t call me at all until later in the day and she said that she couldn’t send the guy out the next day. She was very rude to me, too. I told her that this was the second time and it was upsetting. The outlet is sparkling and it needs to be fixed. It’s a bigger deal than a small outlet not working. She told me she didn’t have anything the next day and that I could call AHS.
I called AHS back again and I was on hold for over two hours, between getting on and getting off. After 47 minutes on hold, I hung up. Then I called back and tried a different prompt. I tested that a few times and I was on hold between 5 and 15 minutes, trying something else. It was horrible. I then ended up going online. I have been looking for another way to get back with them. There was a way to do it on Facebook and I was willing to try it out. They ended up giving me another company. The number they gave me sounded like someone’s cell phone number. I called a few times and nobody ever called me back. At this point, I have been waiting since last Thursday when I first called to get someone to come out and fix the problem. In this situation, I was already charged but I think I should be refunded. I’m gonna call my credit card company and dispute the charge.
The air conditioning problem was similar. AHS sent a company who called me and said, “We’re coming out tomorrow between this time and this time.” That day, they called me and said they couldn’t come and that they were gonna come the next day. The next day, the guy didn’t call when he came. He was supposed to call me so I could give him instructions. Supposedly, he knocked on the door. I was not home but my next-door neighbor was there for him. My next-door neighbor said the contractor didn’t knock on the door. The door is 2 feet away from my next-door neighbor. I called AHS back and they got another company who came out and fixed the problem. They were awesome. Also, when I called for plumbing, the contractor came out here right away and fixed the problem.
Initially, I was trying to find a home warranty company, and AHS was recommended to me by two people. I have a condo in Florida and I live in California. I had Service America and I didn’t really like them because it took a long time for me to get a hold of them on the phone, but they’re better than my experiences with AHS. I thought AHS would be more reputable, but they’re not vetting their contractors. They just send anybody who signs up. They should make sure the person or company they send has a good history.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my home air conditioning and submitting the claim online was easy for me. Someone called me the next day and the the contractor who came out was really friendly. He took pictures of what we have, what's going there with it and just a warning of if I have any problems, what the issues might be and what to do when it happens again 'cause I had no clue what to do. He basically showed me and he fixed the issue in one visit. The AC is now working perfect. Go get the American Home Shield's service 'cause it's really good.

My sump pump in my basement was leaking water so I needed to get it fixed pretty soon. I put in the claim to American Home Shield at 10 o’clock one night. I doubted that anybody would be answering too much so I did it online and they were there the next afternoon. I had one other claim which I did online as well and it worked out easily. The contractors communicated well, they were on time and solved all the problems I’ve had. Also, the quality of work was great. I’ve had American Home Shield for just a couple of months now and I would recommend them.

American Home Shield sent someone out to look at our refrigerator. Then they said they were gonna try putting a part in, and let it snow, in a few days. So they did and one of the boxes wouldn’t get to the coldest. So we called back, and they said, “Alright, we’ll come back out. We have to schedule it. We’ll call you back,” and they didn’t. So I called AHS and said, “They’re not coming out. They’re supposed to come out. We’re without a freezer in the refrigerator.”
AHS dispatched a different company who said they couldn’t find the right part for it and we need a new refrigerator. AHS gave me the amount that they would pay and I went out and bought it. They sent me a check two weeks later. It all worked out real well. But the claim before that was for the air conditioner. I’ve been getting bills and emails from them, needing the $125 service fee. I would like to talk to someone and I’ve been wanting to call, but it takes so long to get someone on the phone. I’m disappointed with this other claim that I’ve had with them before the refrigerator.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for my air conditioning unit that was not working properly. And my experience with the contractor has been fairly positive. He was very professional, timely, and when we came across scheduling challenges, they’ve been willing to work with me. Sometimes the repairs take longer than expected because it has to go through American Home Shield's internal approvals, and whereas, the professional who comes would say, “Okay. This stuff here needs to be replaced, but I can't replace it because I need approval or we need to suck every ounce of energy out of this before I can replace it.” And in the process, it ends up costing me more.
And in the case of air conditioning, if something is not working and it needs to be replaced in three months, you might as well do it now, but the contractors won't because American Home Shield won't replace it while it's still working. You can see that it's on its last leg, but they won't change it. They won't do preventative. I wish they would change that a little bit and rely on the professionalism of the folks.
Hi, Zakir. Thank you for your overall positive feedback and we do appreciate the suggestions you have provided. Most HVAC companies do provide a preventative maintenance plan as most warranty companies are for actual failures.

I have submitted a claim for a couple of appliances such as my microwave to American Home Shield. The first claim was assigned to one contractor who then changed it to another contractor. The second contractor's tech came, inspected all the appliances and said he would order the parts and come back. However, he didn't show up and the contractor wouldn't answer any phone calls.
During the entire process for six weeks, I have made a call with American Home Shield almost every three days. It takes half an hour to get on the line because it's a long wait. The music is on and then finally someone comes in. Even so, their reps don't have proper record keeping. I would ask them to go through their notes but then they would ask me to tell them my problem from the beginning. They would also ask me if I was sure that the contractor I am talking about is the contractor assigned. I would say yes and then they would check and confirm that I am correct. They don't have proper tools and it's very painful.
For six weeks, my appliances are down. One day, the contractor came with the part which was the magnetron. Then, he told me that he would need another person to change that part and that he would come back the following day. I told him to do it but then for two weeks he was gone and there was no response at all. I'm disappointed and I have no idea why I’m still with American Home Shield. I have no idea how they’re even in business with this kind of service.

I had a ceiling fan that was not working at all. The light would come on, but the fan wouldn’t go around. So I filed a claim online and the response came right away. Then it took American Home Shield a couple of days to send someone out. The person from JT’s Electrical Services was excellent. He respected that I had a daycare and it was good dealing with him. It turned out that the motor was out so we had to replace the fan. All in all, the home warranty is an excellent thing. My husband is not handy and I'm glad I got it.

The first plumber American Home Shield sent me was atrocious. They sent somebody who doesn’t know anything about plumbing. He said that we needed to gut our bathroom, get behind the wall, break some pipes and raise them. I requested for a second opinion and American Home Shield sent Re-Plumb Plumbing. The plumber who came out identified the problem. I had also called eight different plumbers and explained to them the problem over the phone. All eight recommended a solution which Re-Plumb Plumbing recommended as well, unlike the first one who wanted to basically gut the bathroom.
The experience with Re-Plumb Plumbing was flawless. They were very professional, extremely efficient and knowledgeable. They added a riser to the flange to raise it about a quarter inch. Then they put another rubber ring and the sealants to prevent any leaks. Then they secured the toilet back in place and coated it with clear silicone. And everything looks good so far.

When he went up in the attic, he discovered that the condensing coil had little cracks in it and that I needed Freon. The AC had been running fine until it got cold and I had to turn on the heat.

When we made the contract with American Home Shield for this year, they gave us an option that if we paid in full for the year, the first service fee of $75 would be waived. However, for the last many months, I have been getting an email that I owe them and each time I've called the office, they’ve given me confirmation number after confirmation number saying that they all have that taken care of it. The only problem with AHS is that it takes over 30 minutes to wait online to get an operator. Nonetheless, the reps I speak with are very good. The contractors that we've ever had out here have been wonderful except for one, and the quality of the repairs has been very good. We've had AHS for about eight years now and they’ve been good. But recently, one of the blades on our HVAC's fan had broken of. It was making a really loud noise and we weren't getting any service from it. American Home Shield's claims rep was good. She said that a different company would come out for this claim since they send whoever is available when I needed certain services. It took a day for Modern Mechanical, the contractor, to come out. American Home Shield is great. I've been with them for a long time and I recommend a lot of friends to them too. I always submit claims over the phone and it's very simple. Everything is great except for having to wait on the line for a long time. I had a claim for my stove and the contractor took about a month to get it fixed. They had to order and replace a part and then find that it's still not working. They replaced another part and then they found the problem. For 2 weeks that I didn't have a stove, I had to borrow and use one of those little ones used for camping from my sister. But after they fixed it, everything went back to normal and it's okay now.

Since we've had American Home Shield, I've had some issues with my pool heater and pool starter and they kept sending over an electrician. I contacted AHS about that and kept telling them to please try to find a pool person because the guys they sent out messed up even my plumbing, if they call themselves fixing it. And they redid some of my plumbing which totally messed up my entire pool system so I paid out of pocket $1,00 to a pool contractor to come and repair the work. My renewal for my plan comes up in December and I will not be renewing the additional dollars that I pay them for my pool.
Then, I had a claim for my AC a couple of months ago. It stopped working and I went online to AHS's site and ordered a repair. I've always submitted claims online because I've never been able to reach them by phone. The contractor came over and opened my AC outside and realized what it was. It was a starter that had burned out and he replaced it. He was gone in 10 minutes. So, it works great.

In May 2018 I called for regular maintenance on my two AC units. I was told that I needed two new units, and mine were 15 years old. They said that there a huge leak and all the coolant was gone. The unit was so old, and so much would need to be replaced. He said it would cost as much to repair as replace. I called AHS and requested assistance with our AC units. We live in Phoenix, Arizona and the summers here are super hot! The AC unit would not cool. They sent a technician out from some 3rd rate company who said it needed a new compressor. I asked for a 2nd opinion, as this did not agree with my usual maintenance contractor. They sent a second person out, who said they would not replace, and that he agreed with the first one they sent.
I requested assistance again, and they sent the first one out, and he said that now it needed R-22 coolant and new coil. He came back with materials a few days later. He was up in the attic for half a day. He took wood up there and some other parts I didn't see. The unit seemed to cool, but would not go lower than 78. He charged me over $1000.00 for parts AHS would not cover. I reported this to AHS, but they said they would charge me again to have someone come out again. Fast forward to November. I request my fall service from my usual company. They go up to the attic, come back down with pictures that AHS technician used wrong parts, gaps and holes everywhere. Old materials left up in my attic causing fire hazard, and all the cool air was not contained and going all through the attic. Said that unit beyond repair. Now pending so called investigation through AHS, a week has gone by and no contact from them at all.

American Home Shield advertises on the premise that you protect yourself from unknown costs of home repairs. I have been a customer for approximately 15 years and that used to be true, however, I had 2 claims this year and I was still hit with unknown costs even though I have the warranty. I put a claim in for my central air unit in May 2018 and it is still not resolved. Initially, the company they sent said I needed freon which isn't covered so I had to pay $200 in addition to the $100 service. My unit still didn't work after a couple weeks and the company was called back for a recall. This time they said that it couldn't be fixed and needed to be replaced which in my opinion was the case the first time they came out.
They said that it was going to cost $125 in modifications which wasn't covered by the warranty. They then came back and said it was going to be $375. When they called to schedule the install the technician the amount that was given was incorrect and it was going to be $550. I told him not to come and contacted AHS. They contacted the company to verify the amount and was told $375 but I then got a call from AHS a few weeks later stating that it was going to cost $585. It is now winter in Chicago and I still don't have my central air unit fixed and they are stating that it will likely have to wait until the spring. The other service call I had was for my hot water heater. Again, I was told that modifications aren't covered and the company they sent out said that it would be $500 in modifications.
Another unknown cost for something that is supposedly covered by the warranty. I had another company come out to fix the hot water heater and guess what, there were no modifications needed. I chose to take the cash in lieu so that I could choose my own company and they were only offering $496 to purchase and have the hot water heater installed. Needless to say, that was even close to what it cost me to have it installed. I paid my own company $700 for the service and I'm still waiting to receive the $496 back from AHS. You will have unknown cost with AHS so don't be fooled thinking because it's covered by the warranty that you won't have to come out of pocket because you will.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I hope this review gets a response from AHS. I started with a positive experience with a refrigerator repair. Then my faucets were leaking. Called them multiple times, I don't know who is trying to make money (contractor or AHS) but this whole experience is VERY FRUSTRATING. I'm in Engineering Customer Service and this is not so right. All they are trying to do is band-aiding without fixing it (sometimes it stops leaking for a few minutes and then drips again). I don't understand the logic of sending some many times to band-aid to save money but ending up spending more man-hours to fix something so trivial, I have spend about 6-8 hours so far (call wait times, talking to folks, waiting at home for the scheduled visit). 2 visits so far, not completely fixed! Now they have scheduled someone to come again and I think they will try to band-aid again.
Loss of my time, my BP going up, and frustrated. AHS, if you have a flat tire, do you fix it or run your car with spare all the time? That's what you are expecting to do. I don't know if your vendors are trying to milk you out but your customers are not happy. I usually don't bad mouth anyone, but if I did, there is something really wrong.

That vendor came out and I never heard from them again. It was very disruptive to not have the claim taken care of but American Home Shield authorized me to buy a little refrigerator. That was nice and AHS definitely resolved the issue, but it took a month. I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a pilot light on my hot water heater. I did it online and the process was very easy. That was the second time I made a request from them. Usually, they would respond in a day or so. If I submit the claim before the end of the day, I'd get a response from AHS. And then, I'd get a response from whomever they assigned the claim to. My interactions with their contractors were good. They have been very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. I've only been with American Home Shield for a year or two, but so far, the experience has been positive.

I've been with American Home Shield for eight years now and they're easy to deal with. They give me peace of mind. When our upstairs heat pump was not working, I had no air so I put a claim in online. That was easy and American Home Shield sent United Temp out. The contractor was in the house for two and a half hours. He was troubleshooting it and telling me what was going on, what the issue was then what the options were to fix it. It was just replacing the thermostat, programming it and making it functional. He also helped me program it. It was a wireless thermostat and he explained how to use it. Everything has been good since then.
Hi, Troy. Thank you for letting us know how well your A/C service request went. Your positive feedback is definitely a bright spot.

Our experience with American Home Shield has been good but we had the issue with the company that they had that came out. It looked like the company was just using AHS to get the $100 then run, because the company gave me a terrible quote which was about $2,200 and $1, 800 was not covered by AHS. Then we got another company who gave us a fair quote and we went with them. But then, there was $100 in there that they said they were gonna take care of, and it has been floating around on the account. Also, the chiller that they put in wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. The house takes a little while to cool down, where before, it worked better with the older one.
Another issue was the autopay on the website has never worked, and we've had issues every month. So I've gotta call in every month, and then I've got to be on hold for like 20 minutes to make my payment because the website doesn't work. I'm hesitant to give them a card and tell them to just do the autopay because it hasn't worked as of yet. I've also gotten conflicting reports. I've called in people and they said they'll take care of the issue. And then, I talked to someone, and I was told that it's just on there and that I'm being credited and it'll come off in a few months. Other than that, with the service, it worked great with the AC unit.

I had issues with my garage door as it wouldn’t stay shut and I had to manually close it. My claim for it was submitted online and the American Home Shield website is user-friendly. They got Precision Garage to come out and the technician was very helpful. I had to call them back because the door wouldn’t open last night. He came and did something else today, and the door is working fine now. I’ve only had two claims since I’ve had American Home Shield and both times went really smoothly. I’ve actually recommended their warranty service to my parents and also to a friend.

My ac started leaking and it wasn’t working at all. I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone, and the contractors were nice enough, but could not figure out what the problem was, and claimed that they needed increased access to be able to fix the problem. We needed to have a separate contractor come in and punch holes in our wall, but then it would have to have been repaired, for them to be able to figure out what was going on. We called for a second opinion. The next contractor who came out diagnosed the problem without difficulty, and ultimately, was able to be fixed without making any holes in the wall.

I had an issue with the furnace and when the first cold came, I didn't have any heat. After four days of no heat, American Home Shield sent out Comfort First Heating & Cooling. It was a control panel and they fixed it. A week later, the thing went out again and they sent another guy and they didn't charge me for it. He found another electronic part that was bad so, he replaced it. Three days later, it went out again. The third guy came and said there was a different electronic part that went bad. Since then, it has been three weeks and it has been working great.
Also, when the garage door wasn't closing, I called American Home Shield and the next day, they sent out somebody to repair it. They put in tiny screws and the guy said it was a good thing I called, otherwise, the whole thing would have dropped down my head. Then, there was a pipe that broke inside the wall. I had to shut off the water. A young lady that works at American Home Shield said she was going to try to find somebody and she couldn't no matter who she calls, they wouldn't answer it. So she said I could get a contract on my own and I did. But she forgot to tell me that I was supposed to have those people call American Home Shield to get an authorization number. They fixed it and it was $400 plus.
The second time, I talked to a young man and he went and looked at our recording and said that the first rep didn't tell me that. I'm waiting for my refund check to pay for the outsource people. I would prefer that they would have let me know, so I would have peace of mind. Also, they keep raising my rates all the time, but it was in the $40 when I first started a few years ago. Now, it's in the $60. Otherwise, American Home Shield has been really good to me. I've had good experiences.

I've had a couple of claims with American Home Shield and they’ve all worked out great. One time, I had a problem with the garbage disposal not working. It was making the water kinda backed up a little bit and it was going out slowly in that sink. That was a bother to me when I'm trying to do dishes and I was worried about running the dishwasher even because of that because I didn’t know what was maybe stopped up in there or whatever. I also had a claim when my bathroom sink was clogged. I called AHS and they immediately got my information and called back. It was automated and they called back right away with the name of the contractor and a phone number. They took care of the problem on the same day.
I had used the company they sent out before. They had sent them out when I had a problem with the garbage disposal before. So, I had some experience with that company, but it was a different technician and they were great. They were professional when they called, gave me several options of times that they could come out, and they were here early. They were efficient and gave me some tips on how to keep my sink from clogging again. I'm always very satisfied with AHS's service. I recommend to all my friends who are homeowners that they get American Home Shield.

The first time the contractor for my ac called, they said it was a heat reverse pump, so they would have to order that, and AHS approved it. Then I had to pay $550 in Freon because they had to replace that reverse valve. The heating worked for one day, and then the next day when it was kicking on, it was blowing cold air. I had the house set at 73 and the house was 66. So I called them up and the contractor came yesterday. It was from two to six and the guy called me up at around 4 o'clock, stating that he was gonna be late. I was thinking he was gonna be late around 7 o'clock or 8 o'clock. But he didn’t call me until 10:57 at night saying that he wouldn't be able to make it. He was gonna make it a recall.
So this morning I called and asked them what was going on. They said, "The earliest appointment we have right now is Monday at 12 to 4." So I said, "Not a weekend, another four or five days that I have to go without heat." So Total Air is not coming through at all. But I've had AHS for years and they never messed me up like this. This is the first time.

I recently filed a claim for my heater. I sent the request online and they had somebody come out very quickly so their response time was good. The initial repair person was excellent, very professional and very ingenuous. He referred me to a salesperson from their company and that's the person that I had a problem with. The heater hasn’t been repaired yet. I don’t feel like the company they sent was trustworthy. I spoke with somebody from AHS. They said that they were gonna call me back with some information about like a cash claim with them but I never heard back. AHS is generally pretty responsive but use caution.

Our old microwave stopped and was not working at all so I called American Home Shield. We had to pick several different ones that were included in the package to replace it. It was probably about a week before anybody actually showed up. But we were busy choosing the correct microwave and so forth. So, I was not disappointed.
The tech had to mount it three times because the guy wasn’t accurate in the way he was mounting it, which caused us a problem. We had to rip out some tiles in the kitchen, which we weren’t expecting to accommodate the microwave because it was a little different size. At one point, he was ready to walk out and leave us with nothing because I didn’t know how to rip out the tiles and he wasn’t willing to. We had to wait for a tile guy. So, I just grabbed a screwdriver and ripped out a whole layer of tiles so he would get out of here. His assistant who was with him was much more accommodating. It was a less than great experience.
Once I ripped out the tiles, he was willing to finish the job and then they left. The end result is we have a microwave. It’s not quite the quality the one that we had, but it has almost everything that it did and it works. Just the one performance was a disappointment, but it hasn’t soured us on American Home Shield. We've had them for many, many years up in Phoenix and now I’m here in Tucson. Overall, we’ve been very pleased with the performance and their ability to respond to what the problems are. I have recommended AHS to folks who have asked, numerous people over the years.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, my refrigerator stopped working for third time, for the exact same problem. I've talked to the repairman twice already. You could hear the compressor running all the way but it was not getting cold. So, Monday morning I put in a request with American Home Shield. You have to put it in online since they don’t even tell you their phone number. You can go on the website and try to find their phone number. I've been with AHS for three years, and it takes 24 hours to get a call back, which has been the way they’ve done it forever.
I got a call back on Tuesday. The lady that I talked to was fairly nice and she told me that they were not gonna be able to have somebody come out for more than a week. I told her that that was not gonna work since it was Thanksgiving and I got food in the fridge. How can you not have a refrigerator for over a week? It was completely unacceptable. She told me that they might have an opening on Friday, but there was no way she could promise that. She then asked me what I wanted to do, so I replied that they gotta get somebody out here. It was two days before Thanksgiving. She said that she was gonna put my request back in the queue and maybe they would be able to find somebody else to come out sooner. So, here’s where the whole thing goes off the train tracks.
I didn’t hear from anybody the next day. So, I go online, pulled up my account, looked to see about my open request, and there was nothing. I tried to find a number, called customer service, and finally got a phone number and called in. The first time I called, it took forever to get somebody to answer the phone, then I was on hold for over 20 minutes, and they just clicked off and hung up on me, which was exactly what happened in the last seven times I've used them. So, I called back, I was put on hold again by some chick that you couldn't understand a word she said. It was like 19 minutes and 50 seconds, and it hangs up on me again.
At the time I was on the phone, they have a little chat thing that you could click on online. So, since I'm sitting there doing nothing for 20 minutes, I clicked on the chat thing, and got a rep. I told her that I was currently on hold for the second time, AHS just hung up on me, I have a refrigerator that doesn’t work, and the kitchen floor is covered with water from the melted ice before. I went through all this stuff with this girl on chat and magically, it said, “Disconnected. Check your internet connection.” I was on my computer with five things opened and I have no problem with my internet connection. They just constantly don’t wanna listen and they hung up on you. AHS already took the money out of my account, they got nobody come, my fridge still doesn’t work, and I haven't heard from anyone.
When it was 115 degrees in Phoenix and both the air conditioners go out in my house. It was a nightmare. At the end of the deal, AHS denied paying me because I had to get another vendor to come do it because they could find anyone. They said, “If we don’t contact you, you have permission to contact another company.” And then, they give you a list, which is basically, every company in the phonebook that you're not allowed to call. I found somebody else that’s a legitimate contractor, checked out all of his stuff, and he's not on their list. I called him up, then AHS told me that the contractor needs to call them before he could work on the unit. So, he calls, same deal, on hold for 45 minutes, and finally talks to somebody. They told that he needs to take apart, see what's wrong with it and then call them back. So, he did that.
We called back, 40 minutes on the phone, and the girl told him that he called the wrong number and that he needed to call another number. But nobody would answer. It just ring and ring and ring. So, I told the contractor to go ahead and fix it. He tried calling for the next two days, and finally talked to someone, and they sent me an email saying that it wasn’t approved, so they weren’t gonna pay for it. I had to go through the whole Better Business Bureau, ConsumerAffairs, attorney general, and it took me three months to get a check back.
American Home Shield also sent out their guy to fix my dishwasher, told me that it was too old, and they couldn’t fix it, and they would give me 50 or 75 bucks towards a new one. It's a stainless steel, Jenn-Air, $500 dishwasher. They wouldn’t fix it, but they still charged me the 75 bucks. So I called a random person and he came out, ordered a part, came back, and fixed it in 10 minutes. The whole repair cost me 120 bucks for him and the service call. The dishwasher still works today perfect and it's been another two years past that experience.
I have a rental house on the other side of Phoenix and I cancelled them. They called and begged me to renew, but I refused. If you go online, there are whole websites and Facebook pages about American Home Shield and how horrible their customer service is. They won't answer the phone, they won't call anybody back, and they won't show up in a timely fashion.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I have to take my washing machine apart to clean up the trap. I filed a claim to American Home Shield, did it online and a person called and made an appointment promptly. The contractor came by the very next day, cleaned it out and was gone within 30 minutes. Also, I had a refrigerator issue and AHS replaced almost every part on it. It was still was not working correctly so they replaced it. In order to get the same company out each time, I had to call AHS. Unfortunately, that process takes forever. The shortest time I'm sitting on the phone was an hour waiting to get the same contractor out because they already knew what parts they replaced and I didn't have to have a new person come out and have a new idea each time.
So far, everybody that has come out here has been wonderful and quick. The slowest person was when I needed my hot water heater fixed and unfortunately, they couldn't come out for five days so I was taking cold showers. Thank God it was 110 degrees here. Overall, I've had a good experience with AHS. My only complaint with them is being stuck on the phone when you need somebody to talk to. They said they've been trying to resolve that issue, but so far I have not seen luck with that yet.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone for the refrigerator and it was easy to submit the claim. But it has been very hard to get any action from them. To get someone out to look at it was good, but it was just the replacement part that was not good. We paid the man to come out and it was a $100 fee. That was in early September and I still don't have a refrigerator. I tried to call and tried to get through on their lines. They're open from 7:00 to 7:00, but trying to get through their lines is like you're on the phone for an hour or more and I couldn't just stay on the phone that long.
Finally, they sent me an offer on the 23rd of October, but that was almost two months after the fact. And so, I didn't get that offer. Then, last week, before Thanksgiving, I called and they sent it to another email address. I responded and told them what we wanted to do and now, they've responded and told me they don't have any information on me about that. So, I had to send them back the information, the contract number, and all that.
I'm waiting to hear back from them and see what they're gonna say. They already said they were gonna replace it and we've already picked the refrigerator. It's just waiting. It has affected our day-to-day operations a lot. We are used to having two refrigerators. We would keep the other refrigerator with beverages and that kind of stuff, so I'm having to stack that on the outside. And the refrigerator that we have is small because it's just for beverages and there's no freezer compartment. I like American Home Shield, but they need to move faster. If they have that much business, they need to add more staff. Also, I'm sure they are a popular home warranty program and so, they need to respond quickly. If anyone asks about AHS, I would tell them that it's a good company.

The bulbs and all the light fixtures I had went into one circuit breaker and the second tech discovered that there was too many on that circuit. I had some high powered light bulbs and the wattage was too high. Now, it's fine.
Having the warranty allows me to have some peace of mind as far as how much I'm gonna get hit for originally. The only issue I have with American Home Shield is the Freon if something goes wrong with the AC. But that's something that they stopped doing. I guess the price of Freon went up so it was a pretty reasonable solution. I had put in a follow up claim with American Home Shield where the techs had to fix the rough opening of the job they did. It was part of an existing plumbing claim that they were closing out. They came to the conclusion that I had a heat problem because of a failed zone control board and a zone valve. They sent a plumber who then replaced those parts and left. The job got done on time. Andrew, the contractor who came for that issue, was a good guy. He was professional and diligent. He had to come back a few times because he thought it was one thing and it wasn’t, but that’s normal in my eyes.
There’s a problem now, however, because American Home Shield isn't gonna pay Andrew for his service. They said some of the components aren’t covered and he was supposed to call and get an authorization. I feel bad that he’s not getting paid. If I knew it would be this, I would not have used American Home Shield. I would have just called the plumber. American Home Shield also can't just give me a bill four weeks after the contractor did the work. I’m in a bad situation because at the end of the day, the contractor is a little high and dry. I understand American Home Shield's point but the kid himself resolved the problem. It was a little crazy, but outside of that, I’ve been pretty happy with American Home Shield. They’re cognizant of what’s in their contract and they do what they say. I’ve had a few situations where they did well. I would recommend American Home Shield, and I have.

I immediately called AHS in hopes of getting someone out as soon as possible, to which the customer service representative over the phone told me that she would expedite the request and someone would call me within 1-2 hours. 72 hours later, I finally got a call from a technician. I told the technician what the issue appeared to be and they advised me to call AHS back to see if they needed to send someone else out as well, as he was not sure he would be able to fix the problem entirely.
I immediately called AHS back and they advised me that they would contact the plumber I spoke with and tell him to come anyway as they needed his authorization/referral for any additional work. 24 hours went by and nothing had been done. No call from the plumber, no request submitted through AHS - so I called again. I told the customer rep that it had now been 4 days since the issue and I really needed something done and someone to come out to my house. The rep said they would put me on hold and determine what was going on - 5 min go by on hold and I am hung up on. So I call again - I explain the situation to the new rep and he says, "So the last representative put you on hold and then hung up? ", I reply saying yes, and he immediately puts me on hold with no notice and I am hung up on again. I have a hard time believing this was not done intentionally.
I call again - I explain the situation again and as I finish explaining the representative puts me on hold and then again, hangs up. I did not call back again, as it became clear they were hanging up on me intentionally because they did not want to deal with my case. I have had AHS for over a year and we have had over a dozen claim requests and so far, only 1 repair has been completed out of those claim requests. We purchased AHS shortly after we bought our first home. I don't recall having to call in for a claim for the first 4 months (Sept-Dec 2017), maybe 1 if that. However, from Jan-Aug 2018, we contacted AHS at least 8-10 times regarding our geothermal AC unit. AHS sent out technicians (plumbers and AC repairers) all 8-10 times who said 1 of 2 things "I don't know what this is" or "this is (ac/plumbing) work and not (ac/plumbing) work." The AC people telling me it's plumbing, the plumbing people telling me it's AC.
Meanwhile, the pipes from the unit are leaking water all over my garage, and the slow close water valve wasn't connected to the unit until individual #6, where the water was constantly running and causing us to pay over $100 water bills (from Jan-May). Unfortunately, AHS never found a company to service our unit and fix it completely. I had to go out and find a vendor, who indicated to me that they would not work with AHS due to non-payment from AHS in the past. So I purchased a new AC unit for $7700 because our warranty company could not find a vendor to fix our unit. I know it's not the responsibility of the warranty company to replace AC units so I moved on.
Forgot to mention, at one point when I called AHS to complain about lack of service on the AC, I waited for 20 mins for a customer service rep, then said customer service representative took 30 mins to "transfer" me to a manager, at which point someone picked the phone back up and hung up the call. Because I needed information on this service request, I called back and waited an additional 20 mins for a customer service rep, who ended up explaining to me that the original order placed was wrong and that I needed an entirely different service done. Then, in Sept 2018 we placed a call to AHS for our kitchen sink leaking. They sent out Matt's Plumbing Service, who looked at it, indicated it did need a new faucet, said they would order it and be in contact with us for installation.
Fast forward to late Oct/early Nov 2018, we had received no call from Matt's or AHS at which time we contacted AHS, who contacted Matt's, who contacted us with "I hear we still haven't repaired your sink" (very nice way to greet a customer who has water retaining under their sink, in the cabinets, due to their negligence). Within the same phone call, a representative with Matt's indicated they would have to call us back to schedule the install. Today is 11/25/18 and I still have not received a call from Matt's nor AHS about this kitchen faucet installation.
In addition, the 1 claim of which AHS was able to "fix" was our garage door electrical connection. But it wasn't really fixed. When we called to have our electrical looked at in the garage because our garage door stopped opening, the technician indicated AHS "probably wouldn't cover the installation" of a new electrical plug for our garage door, that they are notorious for this tactic with his company and he literally ran an extension cord to the plug where our washer is plugged in to "band aid" the garage door repair.
All in all, I hate that we pay monthly for a service we have literally not received any time we have called to have work done. I have called to cancel the service, but of course the customer service rep hits me with "just give us another chance" because they want the monthly premium but don't want to do the work they say they do. It's at this point that I have had two separate contractors tell me "AHS probably won’t cover this" so I'll take my monthly premium back and save it so I can possibly have money to fix repairs since AHS won't even fix repairs when I'm paying them to do it. This has been the worst experience and it's unfortunate because none of our family members have had any problems with AHS. They gasp at our issues and say "that has never happened to me." Well, it's happened to me one too many times now.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I had a swamp cooler issue and submitted that claim to American Home Shield online. Their online site was user-friendly. I was able to navigate and get what I wanted. The contractor that they sent was good. He kept me abreast to what they were doing. He was able to get the problem pinpointed right then because I just described over the phone what it was, and he knew exactly what I was talking about because they called me to schedule an appointment to come out. The first time he came out, there was an issue with that same appliance and same problem. A couple of weeks later, he had to come back. He came back and was able to take care of the problem the second time. The swamp cooler is working very well since then. I've been with American Home Shield for several years, so that shows that I am happy with them. I would recommend them and tell my friends to use them.
Hello, Angela. Swamp coolers can be difficult if the technician is not really skilled. Thank you for letting us know that our tech was able to get your unit working as it should.

My fridge compressor was dying down and a technician came out through AHS and replaced the compressor. And then, in the process, the water supply broke, so they had to come a second time to fix the drinking water on the fridge. I scheduled the repair online and AHS was pretty fast. Also the tech they sent was very knowledgeable, so I definitely appreciated his work. They had to come twice, but since that I had no issues. I was generally happy with the program. AHS worked for me.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for my HVAC system and I also had the garbage disposal unit done. I submitted the claim for my HVAC system over the phone and the reps that I spoke with were helpful. The claim process was quick to get started and the contractor, Air 72, was awesome. They have been to my house and I've worked with them since I've had multiple issues with my HVAC system over the years. They're very polite people and they come on time. They deliver service excellence and get the job done.
For my claim with the HVAC system this time, I asked for Air 72 and the rep helped to assign the service job to them. But I was told that the code says part of my unit had to be replaced and AHS doesn’t pay for that. Most of the repair bill wasn't covered, which was distressing, and I would like to see AHS cover more than they did. But the performance of my HVAC system has been awesome since the repair.

All went very smoothly and happened in a very timely fashion when I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my high-end efficiency washing machine that wasn't filling very much. The claims reps did a good job and were very professional. We just moved in the house so AHS told us how to set the controls so that the washing machine would work efficiently andwe operated it the way people told us to. The guys said that it just uses way less water and power. My wife had to go back to push deep fill, and then it would fill tiny bit. She would then wait, go back, and do that for five or six times with each load to get about six rate inches of water in the machine. The guy said that that was how the machine was intended to work. You can put about fivefold amount clothes in it as you can on a regular machine but it didn't get the clothes clean, so we got rid of it. They should've paid for the brand new machine and have it wash 20% of load that my Maytag washes.
My wife was also not impressed because we spent $75 to have the guys only to tell her that the dryer was intended only to dry a couple of towels at a time. She's also been told by people that every time contractors come out, you wouldn't end up getting things replaced, so you'd just end up spending enough money that you'd stop calling AHS.

We’ve been generally satisfied with American Home Shield. We had one issue not with American Home Shield itself but rather with an HVAC contractor that they sent out. It was a bit of a headache but it was eventually resolved by finding a better HVAC contractor. We used them for the job that time and one other job since then. With that one exception, we’ve been very pleased. All the contractors have done great work and been on time. American Home Shield had also responded to our request and been on time. The nice thing is they have a 24-hour call center so we usually call and try to speak to a human when filing claims.

My refrigerator went out and American Home Shield’s site was user-friendly but the staff could be trained properly. When I placed the work order online, it gave me the confirmation someone will come out. Sears called me and gave me a time but they didn’t show up. When I called AHS, the person that I spoke to wasn’t very nice nor helpful. She told me someone would come out in the next few days and gave me their number to call them. I was trying to explain to her that that was not what the message said on my phone or the email that I received but she didn't wanna hear me. My refrigerator at that time had already been out for several days. I told her my food was gonna go bad because I gotta wait another seven days and she blew me off. So, I had to call back and I got ahold of some other young lady who sent over Mr. Appliance.
Also, in the past, I used to just give a check for my deductible. Now, AHS was saying that they would take it out. However, I got a notice from AHS saying my deductible wasn’t paid. I had my air condition fixed earlier in the summer and they took it out, but then this time, they didn’t. I got the notice the day before Thanksgiving eve. I thought that was already taken care of. AHS should go back to the way it was. As the homeowner, if I’m gonna pay my deductible, just allow me to pay my deductible. At least, I know it’s done. Now, they wanna automatically debit my account that they take my payment out of and now, they’re seeing how that’s working. If they start saying that I’m due, I feel like I’m delinquent on my bills. I have the money. I wanna pay the deductible and I don’t have a problem with that. I’ve always been satisfied with AHS but I was a little deterred with this little situation.

I phoned American Home Shield to have some plumbing work done and gave my information. They set up a time for somebody to call me, and they came out. It was efficient. The contractors were professional, but they should put some covering on their feet when they come in the house instead of just walking outside and then coming back in. It wasn't like they made a mess, but we've had other people come out to the house through American Home Shield, and they'd go outside, come back in and put covers on their feet. It was that little extra thing that sets different companies apart. Outside of that, they did everything they were supposed to and the service was fine. Everything was fixed properly.
There was a follow-up visit and there was some extra work that had to be done due to the issue. I had to pay for that, so I went ahead, got that work done, and then they had to come back out. When they came back out, they were supposed to do another thing and they forgot about it. They left, and then they had to come back again. It was a little inconvenient and horrible, but the job was done. All in all, I've been with American Home Shield for 12 years and I'd recommend them.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I use their webpage correctly and it's fairly easy. They sent me an email after I submitted it. But I can log in to the webpage with my user ID and password. There was a link to put in for service then I go in, then they send me an email saying that it’s been submitted for them to find a contractor to send out to me in 24 hours.
After they contact, usually it takes within 24 hours to get a contractor, and it's not long at all. After I call, someone usually is there. If they tried to change out the element or something that was broke, it would have stripped and they wouldn’t have been able to put one back in.
The guy recommended that we just get a new water heater which AHS approved. Several days later, the contractor came out to replace the water heater. That took about two hours at the most which was about what the guy told me. He was very courteous and nice. Everything got done. He tried but I don't think he had all the stuff he needed to clear it. When he closed out his invoice, AHS assigned another plumber to come out. The first contractor gave me an excuse that had something to do with passing one of the bins. But the second one was very confident, did what he had to do and he wasn't there very long. He had the appropriate equipment and he cleared the drain out without any problem. While I had some reservations with the first one, I would highly recommend the second contractor. The washer was shaking. The hard water had destroyed the valve in the top so it started leaking at the valve and had to replace the hot and cold valve into the washing machine. I called in to American Home Shield. I'd rather talk to a real person because then I know what actually happens and so far, I've gotten excellent service on all calls. The tech from JTL Services did a good job. One of the shocks on the bottom of the washing machine was completely destroyed ‘cause all the water that washed down there destroyed the shock. He replaced the four shocks. But my washer still has some of the spin issues and vibrating. It was a $15 spring to replace on the top, so I just went ahead and ordered them myself ‘cause the tech would have charged me another $75 for me to get another $30 in springs. I'm now waiting on those and I'm just gonna fix it myself. The spring is super easy to fix.
I thought that the shocks were gonna fix it but had I been able to have the tech back out and have him do it, that would have been easier for me and have it part of that original contract, but I thought that I could just spend the $30 and be done with it instead of paying $75. If it's something that’s a minor repair, it would cost AHS and me a lot less if I just fix it, like when the AC went out, it was just a $15 part that I could have easily put in. So, if AHS had to pay process, it could probably save us both money. That’s my only suggestion for the future.
Nonetheless, I didn’t know that AHS has 30 days from whenever I filed the claim for the contractor to come back out and fix that again so that AHS doesn’t charge the customer that $75 fee. So far, I've been pretty happy that we got the service ‘cause we had the dishwasher, and then we had the freezer, and then we had the furnace, and then we had this, I've called AHS a number of times.

My washer was not spinning. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield through their website and it was quick, fairly easy, and painless. They sent the contractor, Suffolk Appliance Parts, out for that appliance issue. The guy that came out was very engaging and polite. He knew what was wrong, talked about the problem, ordered the part that was needed, and came back the following day to install the part. Everything worked fine. But I've had issues with my air handler and certain parts weren’t covered. I was left with a bill that I didn’t know I was gonna have to pay. Their being a little more open as to what is covered and what is not would benefit a lot of people who have an their warranty.
Nevertheless, having an AHS warranty gives me peace of mind because, for the most part, no matter what stops working in my house, it’s gonna cost me 75 bucks, unless it’s something outside of the parameters of whatever my contract agreement with AHS is. I've been with them for more than 10 years and, although I've had stumbling blocks over the years, they've been fairly decent overall and the service has always been good. When I was renting a place, the techs couldn't get out for three days. I lived in Florida and it was 100 degrees out, so I ended up getting the unit fixed myself. I had an AHS warranty for the seven years that I lived there and in my experience with them, the main thing was getting the contractors out in a timely manner, especially under certain conditions. In the North, when furnaces break, people aren't gonna wait. I was originally from Chicago and if it was 20 below out, I wasn't gonna wait four or five days to get my furnace fixed. Recently, I sold a property that had an AHS warranty and as part of the selling arrangement, I agreed to pay another year for the AHS warranty for the people that bought the property.

He also went into the main heating unit and he found three wires that were burned out.
Then he came downstairs after working in the attic and explained to me that I have to keep all the doors open in the house so that the air circulates completely, which was one of the things that I wasn’t doing. And he changed all the filters in the house which I asked him to do. But he didn’t have to do that and that was very nice. I was very pleased with him and he seemed to be an intelligent fellow. Updated on 12/24/2018: I gave a bad review a few weeks ago while I was waiting for our broken washing machine to be fixed. I was very frustrated because when that appliance is broken, there are no alternatives to get around the problem. I was not happy that it took almost 3 weeks to get the problem resolved because no replacement for the broken part could be found. But in the end, the customer relations department made it up to me.
Original Review: Our wash machine broke on Nov 8, 2018. It took almost 2 weeks for the "parts search" and installation of the defective part. That did not fix the problem. Now we get to wait how many more weeks to get the machine replaced?? Have they given us a date by which the problem will be resolved?? No! Do they care that it costs us $30/week to do the wash at the laundromat and drag it all home to dry? Is there anything in the contract that defines an acceptable timeline for repair?? No. We are at their mercy, and I am really upset at being treated this way. We've been customers since 2013. Have any of our payments ever been late? No. I would like to know how long AHS defines as an acceptable level of service to repair or replace a broken wash machine. If you can't give me an exact number of days defining what is reasonable, then shame on you!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I've only submitted a claim twice to American Home Shield and I did it on their website. The recent one is for my furnace that wasn't working. The contractor is United Air Temp and they told me that they couldn't come till the next week. I had to wait for a week in freezing temperatures and my son got a cold because there was no way to heat his room even though I bought a bunch of air heaters. When United Air Temp came, they told me they've ordered the part but they don't know when it's gonna come.
The manager came today to sell me a new furnace and I kept on saying that the furnace is under warranty. I also told them that I need them to fix it. At first, he estimated and told me that the part was gonna be here in 5 days. But now, they don't know when the part is gonna come so they don't know when they're gonna fix my furnace. Also, I could be without heat for the whole winter if I don't subject to the blackmail and buy a furnace from them. I'm being screwed over, despite my home warranty, and I'm being told to have to buy a new furnace or I will have no heat and my kid will be sick. My money spent on this contractor is a huge waste.

It was very hot and the AC was not cooling and was not cooling down the house. I put in the claim to American Home Shield on a Friday and it took four or five days for Cooling & Heating Specialist to come out. The tech was very professional and he fixed it. The unit is a lot better since. Overall, it was a good experience. Having the warranty is extremely valuable, especially now that we purchased this house. It gets extremely hot where we live and you can’t live without certain appliances.
Hello, Salvidor. We appreciate your positive review. A/C season is our peak time of year, we regret to hear that it took 4-5 days to be serviced but are glad to know that it was resolved during that initial appointment time.

There was a problem with our heating and air conditioning unit blower. Submitting claims over the phone could be easier, but I don’t like doing things over the internet for that kind of report. Plus, American Home Shield's system tends to automatically shove you into a set of options which may or may not be appropriate. The actual accessing process has become a little more difficult since they automated everything.
The contractor was absolutely fantastic though. They were quick to respond and sent out people who were professional. The first guy who came was good. He recognized that there was a limit to his knowledge and that my problem was a little more extensive. They sent a more experienced person and he was incredibly friendly. He had only been able to get the final repair done today, but he fixed the problem perfectly. The delays were totally acceptable. It was the sort of thing you need if you need to order a specialized part.
I have two policies, one for my home and one for a rental policy. I have had problems with the rental property one. According to Oregon law, if there's a heating issue in a rental property, it has to be dealt with within a 24-hour period. I had a heating issue there and AHS was gonna take over a weekend to get there. I had to call out a different person who was off-program because we didn’t have time for the claim to turn around.

I was not here at that time, but my husband did not have any problems with them. However, we paid our bill and then the next thing I know, it was not paid. So, I need to find out through billings somehow because I thought we were covered. I even sat on the line for over an hour waiting to speak to somebody in customer service. They need to do something about their customer service. Their repair end, once it gets here, is okay. It just takes too long. Still, the refrigerator has been working fine after the repair.

The water heater wasn't working properly and we raised a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The basic waiting time when I call is 20 minutes but sometimes, I get it immediately, and after that, everything is very easy. American Home Shield gave me a list of service providers in my area and I chose one. They gave me an appointment in a week's time and they came. They asked about the issue and inspected the water heater. They said that the water heater needs to be completely replaced. They got in touch with American Home Shield who approved the request for replacement instantly. The heater was replaced by the service provider in a week's time. The person I dealt with was very friendly and he explained to me very clearly. AHS is good to start with because I enrolled when I bought a home very recently and until now, I have raised three or four complaints with them and everything went fine.

I usually go online to submit my claims with them and their website works. The contractors that have been sent out have been top-notch. Their work has been great and I'm completely pleased. I also had a water heater replaced and we were able to work it out so that I can replace it with a tankless water heater, and the contractor did a great job on the installation. It was, “Oh, you're the customer, whatever you want.” It all worked out really well.

A couple of days later, he said he had the parts that was necessary. He called me back and told me he had the parts. He brought them over and fixed the situation in a pretty quick manner. I usually do my claims with American Home Shield online because it's easy. And when I file an order when I need something, someone would call me within an hour, unless I file my claim at night. When I had problems with my air conditioner, the contractors AHS sent came out and recharged it. They did something upstairs once. I was not really excited about having to get an air conditioner at the time. But it was very good and I didn’t have to pay anything. All of my appliances have gone out. They were all 14 years old.
With my 14-year old hot water heater, the contractor came out and found that heater has water in the pan, which it is not supposed to have. There’s a split somewhere in the inside workings. The heater is still working, but it’s leaking. I’m getting a new one tomorrow and American Home Shield is paying for the heater itself. But since it's an older unit and put in in another time, there are some code issues that they are gonna have to put a quote on and that's gonna cost me. I've had American Home Shield for at least five years and I was thinking about dropping them. But my hot water heater went out so I’m glad I didn’t.

Contractors initially came out for my washing machine and for my refrigerator since the icemaker that's not functioning. They had to come out a second time after the parts came in. The parts on my washing machine were replaced and everything's functioning fine with that. But with the icemaker, the contractor said the wrong part was ordered. He left and he ordered a new part. He finally came back and put the new part in but nothing changed. I still have a broken icemaker.
It takes over an hour to get through to talk to anybody at AHS. I finally got through a few days ago and the gentleman came back again today. But he was here for not even five minutes. He inspected the refrigerator and said he was gonna order another part. This would be the third time he ordered parts. It's not my fault the wrong part got ordered and it may not have been his fault either. But he submitted the request and AHS delivered the wrong part.
If I have to call AHS back and I'd tell them that if the contractor gets the right part, I'd like him to be here as soon as possible. I don’t wanna wait another four weeks before he shows up. I want the part to be delivered quickly. I've been out of ice for three months now. It doesn’t seem like AHS' service is gonna benefit me at all. I had a very disappointing experience with AHS and I'm gonna cancel my service with them. I don't think I need a contract with them. I wouldn't recommend them either.

However, I have also spoken with some really good people there, so I've had really great experiences with certain people and then not so much with others. I have a claim still in process for a HVAC situation and a contractor was scheduled but no one showed up. They called an hour and a half after the latest time they were supposed to be there and so hopefully, they would show up. I love American Home Shield. But I'm pissed that I'm paying $75 right outside of the 60 days, especially when one issue has to do with the other. American Home Shield initially sent All Brands Appliances out when the AC stopped working. My fan was working but the AC itself had stopped working. When the gentleman came out, he replaced the fan motor. The gentleman was a good old boy and he told me that he's the only one in Seminole County. From the time that he was there to the time that he left, it was about an hour. He was probably one of the quickest people who came and went. He even replaced the part, which he had on the truck. It was a Friday and I was so worried I was gonna have to wait over the weekend because it was still hot out. But I didn't have to wait. Today, I was told there were two things that were replaced though. But I only remember one.
But then we had our first cold spell in Florida and last night, when I went to turn the heat on, it didn't even turn on. I was really disappointed. Then I was told that it was out of the time that I had to call back American Home Shield. I just haven't had to use my heat yet though. The guy who came out was there. He diagnosed and fixed within an hour. But we had just bought the house and we tested everything. The heat was working fine before. So I think that since it didn't turn on at all, something just didn't get hooked up properly. The guy was nice though. I'm hoping that he's honest and he would say that he forgot to hook something up. Somehow, I would magically get my $75 back so I can buy something for one of my kids for Christmas. Nonetheless, I sell this warranty all day. I work at the title company that do up the figures and I recommend American Home Shield all the time.

Before signing up with American Home Shield, I did some research because those things make me nervous. There’s a lot of negative stuff out there when you Google it but my brother and his wife used American Home Shield in Atlanta and his wife loved them. She swore by them so I went ahead and did it. In my experience, it’s easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield. The only catch is that the first contractor they will find for us will be in Northern Virginia. And we’re in Central Virginia. But I guess it’s because of where we are located. It’s very strange but this seems to happen even with GEICO Insurance.
I did an electrical claim with them online and when American Home Shield first sent me the email confirmation and the name of the contractor, they were up in Northern Virginia. So I picked up the phone and called. I told them that they've assigned me a contractor that’s two and a half hours away. That was when the representative found MW Butler and they’re like a 15-minute drive. At that time, we had several electrical issues. We had just moved in but the house is 11 years old and everything worked before. But then the back porch light and all of the basement lights went out.
There was also a ground fault receptacle by the front door that needed to be replaced. I had bought the replacement but I didn’t want to install it myself. In addition to that, the ceiling fan in our bedroom was also weird. It would shut off randomly on its own and then one day, the lights came on all by themselves. They would come on, dim, get really bright then dim again. It was like a roller coaster.
As far as the lights in the basement and the back porch, the contractor said the ground and neutral wires were touching. He thought that might have even affected that receptacle by the front door. But he went ahead and changed it out. In that process, the contractor also fixed the post light out of the driveway. It had not been working, even for the house's previous owner, and AHS doesn’t cover those. But whatever the contractor did got it working along with everything else. So the house is weird.
For the ceiling fan, the contractor thought that the problem was the receiver. So he said that I’d need to have a new fan. I called American Home Shield and they set me up to get a new fan. I had Home Depot install it but it started shutting off randomly too. Then at 5 AM one day, the lights came on and we jumped out of bed so fast. Everything’s LED now and those lights are bright. It was like a prison spotlight coming on you and your hands are against the wall. So I called American Home Shield back and they marked it as a recall so I didn’t have to pay again.
They sent the same guy out and he took the ceiling fan down. He also took the switch light cover off but he could not find anything. He said it had to be something in the wiring. But we have a tray ceiling and because of that, you can’t just pull a wire through. He said that the only way to replace the wiring is to tear the ceiling out. I didn’t want to do that. But we don't like lights on ceiling fans anyway so we asked him to take the light bulbs out. We would deal with the fan shutting off randomly, at least for the time being, and if it gets to be a nuisance, I would call it back in. All in all, MW Butler was awesome. We love him to death. In fact, we're telling everybody in the neighborhood that we found a great contractor.

I called American Home Shield and they arranged to have someone come out. I’ve had three people come out and they’re all very informative and efficient. I’ve learned a little bit about everything that they’re doing so it’s a bonus. The first call was because of a leak around the base of the toilet. The first guy came out and pulled the toilet out and put a new O-ring in. He put several of them in for extra protection, and it worked. He repaired the leak from around, and then he put new caulking in. It was great. However, a couple of days later, I noticed that there was a leak from the tank so I called AHS again. They sent someone else out, and it turned out to be just a loose bolt. When the first guy pulled the toilet out, the bolt from the tank to the rest of the basin got loose and water leaked. He tightened the bolt and everything has worked fine since then. He was very professional and he did the work so quickly.

We were supposed to hear from AHS or the plumber about next steps, no one ever called or came back out. When we called for the second time since Tuesday and asked they send a different plumber they would only agree to do so if we agreed to pay for it? Why should we pay for it? We don’t even know what’s wrong or if it’s covered yet!
They said they could send out the same plumber again, but we would have to wait until Monday afternoon. We have little kids who need baths and it’s below freezing here in Pennsylvania right now. We canceled our plan and hired a local plumber to come help us. I talked my neighbor into getting AHS, because I believe in the company. He had a motor going out on his pump and he bought the pool warranty thing. They came out this morning and they replaced the pump. So, if you look at the cost of the pump that they put on there, that service paid for itself. American Home Shield didn't make much money but at least they got another person that'll sign up again because of their service.

We had a couple of claims with American Home Shield. The water heater broke and the drains in the bathroom sinks weren’t draining appropriately because the faucets were put in incorrectly. I went online for my claim and the turnaround time was the next day. The contractors, The Lindi Corporation, were great. They were right here in tow. They were fast, efficient, and they gave me all my options. I would highly recommend them. We haven’t had any more issues since the repair.
The only thing with AHS is that where we live, we border on three states. Generally, what they do is they focus on the bigger towns around us which is like an hour away. But when they use smaller corporations like Lindi that are right in town, it makes a difference like when you’re talking to them and how soon they can get out to help you. I’d like to support my local town. Getting contractors from the bigger cities that are around is not always the best. Some of them have actually refused to come up on some other situations we’ve had such as with the garage door and things like that.

My wife called American Home Shield when our ac stopped blowing cold and they did a good job. They sent a contractor within 24 hours. We’ve used the warranty quite a few times. It has come in real handy. But the contractors that we come across in our area are just lazy and not professional. We’re out in the country a little bit, so there’s less options. There was one instance where we told them that the guy was ridiculous. When my oven broke he had my wife help lift the oven into the spot instead of bringing somebody out to help him. She ended up hurting her back doing that. But the ac has been cool enough after the repair. We called them back, because he was supposed to bring out our refrigerator, and we said he couldn't come back out unless he got help. AHS then called a different company.
Hi, Bryan. I regret to hear that our tech was not prepared to do the work required when servicing your appliances. Thank you for staying vigilant until your concerns were addressed and handled correctly.

We had a dryer that had some problems with it. The first contractor AHS sent said the problem was that we didn’t clean the vent, so he said there wasn’t anything he could do about it. My wife called AHS back another contractor came out and replaced four parts. The dryer’s working fine now. The only thing I would tell AHS is to make sure what’s actually covered with their policies. I’ve called about pool motors and found out later that it wasn’t covered under the policy, which I don’t know why. I thought they were.

The heating element in our microwave burned out. It was the unit that was put in by American Home Shield, got it for us about two years ago. It’s a GE and we’ve had a lot of problems with it. In fact, we’ve had three calls on it this year but they were fixed eventually. One time, we had to wait six weeks for a part but it did get fixed. My claim is usually taken care of very quickly within a day or so. We’ve submitted claims both online and over the phone but we tend to do it more on the phone now because one time we submitted it and then we had somebody come out and they couldn’t fix the problem because it wasn’t covered. If we had talked to someone, they would’ve told us and we wouldn’t have to pay $75 for a visit that we couldn’t even use. That was a disappointment and it soured us on online signing up.
Their reps are very courteous. They usually tell us, “We’ll submit this and you’ll hear within 24 hours.” They get somebody out here very quickly. Sometimes we’ve had to wait to get the problem fixed because of parts, but that’s not really American Home Shield’s problem. The contractors that have come to our home have been very good, except for the one who replaced the microwave a couple years ago. The man did not know how to do it. He tried but he couldn’t figure it out. They had to get somebody else to come and do it. We also had somebody come out for our water heater because it went off and the water got very, very hot before it went off. The man came out, pushed the reset button and said it was okay. He didn’t give us an explanation for that. Nonetheless, our water seems to be hotter now than it was before and it hasn’t gone off again. American Home Shield is a good company to go with.

The first time I had a plumbing issue, I suppose I had not read the contract carefully enough ‘cause I called my own plumber, got them to come out here and do all the work. I called AHS and they said that I have to call them first, get it approved, and then they could pay for it. I was a little displeased about that because it was about a $400 plumbing issue that we had inherited from the people that lived here before, and I thought we were definitely covered under that American Home Shield ‘cause it said plumbing. Nobody explained to me in the beginning that I had to have things pre-approved. It was just on a written contract in one of the codicils in there. And ordinarily, you wouldn’t think that that was an issue, but it became one. I don’t mind paying the 75 to have somebody come out and look. But it was taken care of on my dime. So, I felt like I paid for a service that wasn’t made available to me. But it was my bad and I accept responsibility.
So for the latest claim, I called in for pre-approval. Originally, there was a short in an outdoor porch light. Unfortunately, it was much deeper than that so it had had to be replaced so he got a whole new fixture. There was another issue downstairs with the cable television. They arranged Dan’s Electric to come out and the contractor called and said he'd be here the next day. And off he came and things went fine. He was very professional, explained the $75 fee associated very well, which I understood and took care of our interest. And once he looked at the issue downstairs and dissected what was wrong, he was able to make a great recommendation. He was able to replace our fixture out front. Since then, everything has been fine and dandy. Overall, I'm very pleased with American Home Shield's service but I would tell people to make sure they understood all the conditions.

Then, the week before last, our refrigerator went bad and we had to do one more claim.
All of AHS' contractors have been fabulous. The electrician guy was very knowledgeable, nice and professional. He was better than any electrician we've brought out here on our own. With the refrigerator, the first guy couldn't fix it because it was a closed system. I have a medical issue and AHS was really good about immediately getting somebody else out here and expediting it. Both guys that came out to work on the refrigerator were awesome and willing to admit when it was something that they couldn't do. I'm extremely happy that I signed up with AHS. It's one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. I keep telling people that they ought to sign up for AHS.

My house is 17 years old, so there's always something going wrong with it. So far, my warranty with American Home Shield seems like a good thing for me. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield then I talked to the contractor, Lindsey Plumbing Company. They called and set up an appointment. Then they came out and fixed the problem. I have used them before, so I kinda know their guys and they were good.
Shortly after that, I started having water coming out of the overflow in one of the hot water heaters. So, they came out again. They said that that was not related to the other thing but they fixed that also. Then today, I realized that there's water coming out of the overflow again and I assume it's the second hot water heater. So, they're supposed to come out. I put it in as a recall because I wasn’t sure and we'll figure it out when they get here.

They were very efficient, very professional and very nice people. They ordered the part, came in and replaced it. But one thing about American Home Shield's system that needs to work better is when you call in to talk to somebody. That takes over an hour and a half and then when we get somebody they would say, “Our computers are down. We can’t help you," or sometimes, “You have to call back again tomorrow.” So you end up holding for nothing.
The only thing I work on is requesting online for an appointment, for somebody to call me, to come in and check something out. Otherwise, there’s no use to talk to anybody there. You can’t get through. Usually, within 24 hours, whoever they assign call me and try to set up. Their contractors were always very pleasant. I haven't had any problem with any of them. The leak was on a bar area. So the plumber tore the drywall out under the sink, then they had to tear it out on the bar side facing the living room to get it. The leak was so close to the slab, he wasn't sure he would be able to get it. But he was able to get it fixed. They did a great job, besides having to tear into the wall, which couldn’t be avoided. I just called AHS to have somebody come out and fix it. It’s been two and a half years since we moved in and got AHS. I submit my claims both online and over the phone. American Home Shield responds online in an email but the call is a little faster for us. The contractors only do what they're told and they dare not go beyond what the company stands for. So, as far as I'm concerned, they are willing and able, but based on what the company is advocating at that time. There are certain things that American Home Shield can do and will do. But sometimes, they are confusing us to what they want to do or what they will not do. To the consumer, that's always somewhat of an unexplained understanding of what they do or what they want.
Most recently, I had a leak and American Home Shield had it adjusted. But a couple of months ago, I had a problem with my stove. One of the burners was not working well. I had a gentleman come out and he claimed to have fixed it. I gave it some time, but then the stove was still not working properly. I tried to make another claim and requested for someone to come and look at the same situation, and maybe that was my fault. My thoughts were if it still wasn't working, the person should really come out and look at it again. American Home Shield, however, has a cutoff when they won't send anyone anymore to look at the same situation. Now it's a different thing altogether based on the same problem. American Home Shield sometimes gets the job done, but there's a sticky situation that they're still not fully explaining their procedures or policies. But I wouldn't say it's the workers' fault. They are sent to a place and they do what they've gotta do.

Tanks are covered under the warranty I purchased. This is the second plumbing service that has attempted to make more money by bypassing the warranty company they have sent, these were different incidents. I know 3 master plumbers so I know what is needed before calling for warranty services.
I called to complain. The first representative I could not understand due to the accent and I requested another representative and was placed back on a long hold. The second representative wanted me to pay for a second opinion. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield can sometimes be a pain. It’s relatively easy to submit it online, but they may not always have the right description of the issue for you to select. However, I understand that there are so many issues that could go wrong and generally, they let you know whether the issue is covered or not. The contractors have been good. I've had more trouble with American Home Shield than with anything else and that is with respect to satisfying what I thought the contract said versus what the fine print may say.
An example would be a dryer that went bad. They sent a contractor out here and he spent three hours troubleshooting the dryer and finding out what the issue was. He then had to submit it back to American Home Shield. Unfortunately, there's a delay between their submissions to American Home Shield and their response back to me on what’s gonna be done. After four days, they said they can't fix the dryer so the were going to replace it. I then had to call another number to pick a dryer. They had a list of dryers for me to pick from and I had to spend quite a bit of time on the phone either way waiting 20-30 minutes each time and basically just have them call me back.
But the company they contracted with for the dryer could only deliver it. They didn’t have a person that could do the installation so I had to find my own person to do the installation, which is not right. American Home Shield should have done that. We went through three e-mails and insisted that they need to find someone but they never did. They never reported back until I called them the day before the dryer was gonna be delivered and they didn’t have anyone. So we went round and round about how much it was gonna cost and it was more than the amount that they allocated. I even had to get a written quote and submit it to them on what it was gonna cost. It then had to be escalated for approval, but they did approve it on the same day, which very much surprised me.
American Home Shield has fixed things, but they always try to do two or three fixes with $100 per episode and before they finally say they can’t get it fixed right, replacing it is the last thing that they wanna do. In addition, when they do fixes, you have to block out a four-hour window and then you have to be there for the guy and you have to be there while they’re working on it. We went with American Home Shield because we got a good price on it. But our initial experience started sour and then we found out what they didn’t tell us - that you have to buy additional coverage to cover things that aren’t covered. We thought we got everything covered 100% but it ended up not true.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

At the time, the technician was actually in the area responding to another call but the customer cancelled. So he called me and he was able to shoot right over which was close by. He introduced himself when he came in and was very friendly. I showed him where the garage door motor box was and I had a ladder handy, so he got right up there. He took the motor box shell off, looked inside, and described what was going on. He knew what the problem was and said that he got the part.
He went down the driveway to the truck, picked up the part, came in there, and replaced it. He got the garage door running and it took less than 10 minutes. He also did some maintenance on the garage door as an extra. He sprayed some WD-40 on some chains and garage rails. He said that it was needed and that I should periodically do the oiling and greasing of the chain. I was very happy with him. He was pretty fast, efficient, and his professionalism was right up there. And since the repair, the performance of the garage door has been fabulous. All in all, I'm wonderfully happy with American Home Shield and for what I've had, I always kinda hold my breath because I'm worried that if something's wrong and I gotta call it in, I'm gonna get a notice saying that I've cost them too much money and they're gonna drop me. I have American Home Shield at two of my condos, one in Pennsylvania and one in New Jersey. I've used them for about 15 years. I had another company in New Jersey prior to AHS. It was very good but they went out of business. I had to change and I went over to AHS. Every time someone comes into New Jersey, and they give me a price for the repair, I go to my own contractor and it's the same price as AHS. And they give me the payout. I wrote to them and they never answered me. I couldn't get a price that includes the equipment that is the same as their contractor where AHS supplies the equipment. It happened once in Pennsylvania, and it happened three times in New Jersey, where I took the payout, rather than hire their contractor, and it wounded up being less expensive by taking the payout, by the amount of it.
To do an air conditioner repair in New Jersey, I paid about $1,900. That was exactly what their contractor requested and yet, AHS gave me the payout for what the cost would have been. I couldn't understand how that could be the same. And they're supposed to be protecting me as a customer. The amount they paid me is how much I saved because I've been using their contractor. Then it came to the heating and I did the same thing because it just didn't make sense how their contractor was charging me as if I was just their regular customer, and yet, they got all the equipment. They should know the retail cost. Their contractors kept charging me the retail cost and yet they're still getting paid from AHS.
The service department is good. They tried to help, but they're an employee. They don't have any authorization to do anything other than that. Every department is different. When I talked to them, they sent me over to the payout section, and then they calculate if I didn't do the service, how much they would pay out. And that's it. Everyone you talk to is nice. It's just that no one has answered that question to me on how that can happen. I'm satisfied at some point and dissatisfied naturally when there's a major repair. You expect a company like American Home Shield to watch out for their clients. And needless to say, the clients are getting ripped off. I still get the repair and I get it less expensive than going through them, which to me, doesn't make sense. I also don't think their monthly premium is outrageous, but you have to get something for your money.

The dishwasher that came with the house when we bought it stopped working. I saw that my American Home Shield warranty covered it, so I filed a claim for it on their website. Since I work in IT, submitting online was easier for me. I then received a call for clarifications. Everything went well when the tech came out and tried to diagnose and fix the dishwasher.
We were without a dishwasher for a whole month. It took a bit of time getting the entire situation resolved because they had to order a part and then it came back that that part doesn't exist anymore. We had to go through the whole replacement thing. Although it took a while, the experience actually turned out pretty painless. The rep from AHS sent us a link with comparable dishwashers and also told us that if we wanted a nicer dishwasher, we could pay a little extra, and they would cover the cost of what the equal value of the dishwasher was. We just paid a little more on top to get what we wanted. The amount of coverage that AHS provided was fair. They gave me the value of the dishwasher like as if it was new. So, I was very happy with that.
Hi, Kevin. We appreciate your patience with the service request process and are pleased to know that the replacement went as smoothly as it should have. Thank you for your patronage!

The warranty saves me money when I have major problems. I’ve only had to pay the service fee. Before I got it, I would have to pay a lot of money out of my pocket upfront. Now, I’m just paying a monthly bill and it’s like I don’t see that. When the dryer wasn’t drying our clothes, American Home Shield sent Greenway Home Services out. I had submitted that claim over the phone and the contractor came out the week after, when it was better suitable for me. They could’ve come quicker but it wasn’t good for me. Prior to the visit, the technician called me and let me know he’d be there at a certain time, and he was. He told me who he was and he asked me what kind of problem I had. Then he went through and found the problem. He knew his job. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I love American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

We just took out our American Home Shield policy and we called them for the first time for our air conditioner. It was freezing up. The whole system was a chunk of ice. AHS then set everything up and their contractor was out here very fast. We called on a Friday, and we had someone out here by Monday or Tuesday. The techs did a good job and our dealings were very professional.
Actually, we had our local contractor look at it before we filed the claim because we didn’t know how long it would take us to work with AHS. We figured that if it would be a $75 or $100 fix, we would just pay out of pocket and not worry about going through AHS. Our contractor diagnosed the issue as a leaky valve and he told us it was gonna be upwards of $600 to have it fixed. And that was more than what we wanna pay out of pocket, since we have the AHS policy.
So when the contractor showed up, I told them what the previous technician had told us. Then they looked at everything and said that that sounded right for what they were seeing. And then, they had to come back a second time because they didn’t know if there was an air bubble on the line so they added a little more coolant just to top it off. They came the very next day and what they did seemed to take care of the problem. And so, we were very satisfied with our AHS experience. I wished I had known they were gonna be so easy to work with. I would have never called back our other guy to begin with. Everyone should get AHS.

I've filed claims for an electricity issue twice, a heating problem once and an AC issue twice. The first call was for the AC upstairs. It was not blowing and sporadically coming in and out. Comfort First came out for that unit. I haven't had any complaints with AHS contractors. I have had multiple returns because the contractors would try one thing and it would seem to work, but two hours later it would stop working. However, that was pretty normal as I’ve experienced that with everybody else too. Our experience with American Home Shield has been amazing. The copay is not bad at all. I have three contracts with American Home Shield and it gets really crazy sometimes with some of the contractors. Once, I called American Home Shield up and set up for a technician to come, and the representative sent out Sears for me. That was interesting. The dude looked at the stove and he was not a real friendly dude. He was just okay. He decided that I needed a part and he went ahead and ordered it. He had the part delivered to me and then he was coming back to install it. But something alerted me that I was gonna have to be paying Sears maybe for the part. So I called American Home Shield to find out what the confusion was. I let them know that I wasn’t gonna pay for the part because it comes with the agreement that I have with American Home Shield. A different person came back and put the part in, and everything was great.
On the other hand, American Home Shield's phone system aggravates me the most. It takes forever to get into the system and talk to somebody. I'm an older person and I don’t want to deal with the computers. I'm the old-fashioned way. I just wanna call up and say, "Okay, I need help. Thank you." That aside, everybody I've spoke to has been fine. And overall, I've been really happy with American Home Shield's service.

The power went out on our ground floor and we couldn’t find a breaker for it to fix it. We’ve got a lot of breaker boxes in the house and when Rush’s Repair Service came out, it took the technician a while to figure out that it was actually the next outlet. It was working so we hadn’t looked at it. But when it got down to it, it was the next outlet. He was exceptionally good and that was one of our more positive experiences with American Home Shield. But we've had them ever since we bought the house in 2011 and that is not always the case.
We’ve had very poor luck with a couple of the contractors. There was one who would walk in the door saying, “Of course, you’re gonna have to pay extra for that.” I reported that to American Home Shield. Plus the next they said they were sending that particular vendor, I told them it was not acceptable because all he does is tell us that we have to buy something that’s gonna cost us money. And American Home Shield sent somebody else.
We have air conditioning systems that were put in after Hurricane Hugo in 1989. They’re early ‘90s versions and that was when a lot of fly-by-night companies came in. So the vents and the sizing weren't done correctly. But that’s what we have and contractors have been out a number of times because the air conditioners don’t keep working.
For instance, with the one for the main floor, the breaker box goes off three times a day. Their solution to that was to send somebody to drain out the Freon and put in a new batch. But that doesn’t really fix the problem. And actually, Rush looked at it for us while he was there because it was an electrical issue and he said it definitely is not. I asked if we could upgrade the breaker and he said that it was against code to put in a bigger breaker for that and that something really need to be done about the air conditioner. But American Home Shield just wants to keep fixing what’s in there and not put in the new ones. At $75 a pop for us, sometimes it’s a Band-Aid. Sometimes, it’s actually fixed. But if it comes right down to it, they replace the unit in kind.
When our water heater broke on the second floor, American Home Shield replaced that. When the water heater broke on the ground floor, they replaced that as well. But they brought something that wasn’t a replacement. It was smaller. So they went back and got the bigger size. But if I hadn’t recognized that it was a smaller size and not in kind, they would have installed the smaller one. So you have to be alert as to what’s going on. You have to be sure yourself that it’s in kind.
We also did a claim for the bathroom faucet. But because the previous owners had put in very high-end bathroom faucets, you could not get replacement parts anymore. And American Home Shield paid exactly what they had told us they would pay, the maximum amount. We’ve got another one going through the process now. It's for the ice maker. Again, it was higher-end than they could normally get so they told us to do it ourselves, which we did.

They listen to me and find out what my problem is then they usually take it on from there. The contractors they send out seem to be good as well. They know what they're doing and are very professional. In fact, the last contractor I had was very confident about what he was doing. He knew what he was doing and he explained everything to me. He worked on my ice maker and my washer and dryer, and he was good. The home warranty is a good service to have in the long run and I've been recommending American Home Shield to everyone.

I've had AHS for over 20 yrs. The longer you're with them the lesser things they cover! My washing machine broke down and according to the technician the transmission broke and when I called to follow up with AHS I was told that the technician's report was due to overloading the washer. How can you overload when you know that it will not be a clean load and the machine will hardly spin.
A second technician came out to do a second opinion and I was also told the same thing. AHS refuses to replace or repair the unit. So, what good is the contract for? Aside, from paying the policy you still have to pay $75 for the tech to come out. I will just purchase a new washer and a warranty with it. They are getting worst through the years. They are only good for the first year! They are nothing, but a referral company... I can just Google for that and not have to pay for the contract. Do yourself a favor and just save up the money.

Past 2 weeks have been a disastrous nightmare because my husband and I have spent a ton of time on phone and chat with AHS agents to schedule someone to INSTALL the washer and HAUL the old one. What do we get?
They keep scheduling vendor after vendor who only fix washers and not install them! I have taken time off of work to wait for a Sears service person only to know he doesn't install! AHS also hooked me up with a provider far far away who is not even willing to service my area! They run a clown show over there! I have saved all my chat transcripts where you can clearly see that the agents confirm that the provider will install and haul the old one! But it's not the case! They think customers are some kind of a joke... You can never get hold of a supervisor. (I wonder if there is one!) The agents are 0% knowledgeable and doesn't care to look at our contract! Worst service ever! Save yourself from being burnt out and invest in a good local service person!

Updated on 12/20/2018: I had already written a complaint in mid-November. After sending a guy out to look at unit not working and him giving us a very high quote and putting on his invoice slip $800 from AHS they refused to pay. They said something about ductwork was not correct. AHS had been repairing the unit off and on for 20 years and never a mention about a duct work issue.
After I wrote complaint someone from the "social media specialists" team called me. We played phone tag 2x with each other. In the meantime we had unit repaired by someone who came in $3000 cheaper than their guy. She finally got up with my husband on 12/12/18. She told him at that time they were going to take care of us. She asked us to send invoice. I sent invoice, slip of ownership of warranty and original slip from their guy with it written on it AHS will pay... That was over a week ago. I have called her 5 times, if not more, immediately goes to voicemail. I have emailed several times. No response. Why did she even bother reaching out to us???
Original Review: We have used AHS going on 2 decades. We have had numerous issues over the years from 17 days to repair our clothing washer, refusal to repair our refrigerator (they finally did but it took a forever fight), holds on customer service line for over 20 minutes, no call backs once voicemails are left just for example. Our most recent was our air/heating unit broke after 20 plus years. They sent someone out and he came up with a new unit for $7,456 or fix it if he could get parts for $800. After googling average cost of repairs we got estimates and had someone quite a bit cheaper repair. I called AHS and after 3 phone calls of on hold for 15-20 minutes I finally called the "sales line". Well they answer in one ring no lie. He gave me a different # to call as he couldn't help me. I was on hold again 12 minutes. Spoke to the girl said we already replaced and she said not a problem to cut us a check for $800 once she got their repair guys estimate.
Within a day or so my husband got a call we didn't qualify for $800 due to some duct-work issue. I called and sure enough duct-work issue. I said funny you all have been out to work on this unit 3-4 times over the 20 years and no one ever mentioned that was a problem. Well she "couldn't help that". Well I said, "Cancel my contract. Send me a email or something in writing or give me a cancel # I can refer to that we cancelled." She "couldn't provide any of that". You are kidding me!!! I am contacting my wonderful bank who make sure they are blocked from charging me another dime. Oh she did offer if I disputed we could pay another $80 service call to get a 2nd opinion. Thanks but NO. Done with them forever for sure.

Enrolled in the Pick 10 plan in June to start in July 2018 (have to wait 30 days for coverage). Coverage started and then our AC compressor goes out. Called and requested service only to be told that the part was covered but we would be paying up to $800 to the service provider for freon. Canceled work order and went with our own HVAC tech to repair our AC. Filed a claim with AHS for reimbursement that was denied. I was lied to. My policy should have been canceled per my request immediately after the claim was denied.
However they did not cancel it and are now sending me a bill for a warranty that I can't use. I sent the letter certified mail and have a return receipt. Apparently the claims department missed the bold font in my letter stating to cancel the policy? Worthless customer service. They don't answer your call and deny conversations you have had. I have started recording my calls because it's that bad. Still don't have my policy canceled retroactively after being on hold for an hour today. Have to wait for a supervisor to call back. This is by far the worst company I have done business with.

I'm new to AHS, I changed home warranty as the reviews they had last year made it seem as their customer services was great. I recently submitted a request for a plumber. The company they used send a plumber that was on the phone the ten minutes he was at my house to say that I had to put caulking on my sink. There were 2 different leaks coming from the valve and the faucet. I called customer service for a go back. They decided to send another company. The second plumbing company came over and confirmed what I knew that besides having to caulk my sink I had 2 leaks and also 1 leak from the faucet.
The plumber tried getting approval and could not reach the approval department. I been waiting since Saturday 11/17/2018. Today is 11/20/2018 and I'm told I'm denied services because the tech only found a problem with my faucet that needs to be re-caulked. I been on hold waiting to speak to someone for the past 30 minutes. After this horrible experience I encourage anyone that is planning to change home warranty companies not to use American Home Shield. I never had to wait this long with the previous company I used.

I had an issue with my Gas Furnace not working. I was able to get a claim placed very quickly. The company they sent out was very professional however was not able to fix the issue. They need to order parts. They could not give an estimate on when they would be back to fix. I have called AHS several times and was disconnected 3 times after holding for over 20 minutes. When I finally got a person they noted they had to reach out to the technician for an update and promised a call back within 2 hours. 4 hours later I started the hold process again.
Once I finally got through again, I was on hold for an hour and 40 minutes with a women who was trying to help but she was also being disconnected trying to reach another department within AHS for an update. She promised she would call next day with an update. Sadly, again no phone call. I am now 5 days with no heat and we are expected to have the coldest Thanksgiving in history in my region. I also have a 2 year old who we are trying to keep warm with electric space heaters. Praying the cold weather does not cause my pipes to freeze. I'm back on the phone now trying to reach someone. 30 minutes and counting.

This company is such a joke. I have had the home warranty for two of my homes and every single time I try to get service they come up with some reason as to why that service is not covered. I currently have a hot water heater that was recalled, so the manufacturer is covering the water heater but the home warranty company won't cover the labor costs. The labor costs alone for install is $650.00. Not sure why I use this company and will definitely be cancelling them. Consumer beware. Just when you need them they tell you "Oh. That is NOT covered". So sick of these people.

Our heat has been out over a week. AAction Air (should be A Inaction Air) was scheduled for last Thursday morning. They called last Thursday to say their technician called out sick and that they couldn't get to us until after Thanksgiving. We pitched a fit so they scheduled it for Tuesday. I called AHS to see if they could choose a different company to complete the repairs earlier. That took an hour of my time on the phone (very difficult to reach someone at AHS) with no result.
So today the HVAC tech comes and tells us we need some sort of board and that it will of course be next week before they can get it unless AHS authorizes the part order to be expedited. I immediately got on the phone with AHS since I knew I would be on hold for a very long time. In the meantime the technician said he would put the diagnosis in to his office from his truck. He did it. I got through to someone at AHS and she said she would check into it. I was on hold for 39 minutes and then the call was disconnected. They never called me back. So I called again. This call lasted over an hour and in the end nothing has changed.
I was told that they had to wait for a report from AAction Air before they could send it to their expedite people. I asked AHS to be proactive and call their contractor to get the ball rolling. NO... I just have to wait. Bottom line is that I will be without heat until some time next week. I have a house full of company coming for Thanksgiving. I've already been miserable all week because of the lack of heat. We are going out now to buy a heater. Unfortunately it won't be cheap since we have a large open living area.
Good morning Theresa,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have your heating and air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and assist to get the issues resolved.

I have been with American Home Shield for 7 years and have two contracts with them on two separate homes. I currently have 3 disputes with them with no resolution. As a way of keeping my business at the end of my contract last year they offered me a free service call on each of my accounts. Every time I call in a service call they can’t seem to find their notes concerning this and they transfer me around to several different departments and they never seem to find the notes for these free service calls.
I know the free service calls exists on my account because at one time the rep found them when I called in on a separate item concerning a recall on a service. If you decide to do business with this company you need to understand that you will wait on their phone lines a minimum of 30 minutes to be able to talk to a customer service rep. You also need to know if you are in a smaller service market they have very service contractors in your area and it’s difficult for them to get contractors to travel the distance to do repairs.
AHS is currently trying to bill me for a service call from one of their contractors that wouldn’t come out to service my oil furnace. The service call supposedly happened in September of last year and they are now billing me for it. Supposedly they were billed for it in May 2018 from a September 2017 service call. They approved an outside vendor to repair the furnace and a service fee was deducted for that service and they are trying to make me pay for the other one. I have never done business with a company that is ran so poorly. Their customer service is terrible and your wait times to even try to get a resolution are lengthy. I’ve never been able to get resolutions to my problems. Not sure why I’ve stayed this long with them but customer loyalty means nothing to them. Their customer service has declined greatly in the last year. I would never recommend this business!
Good morning Angela,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience and the service fee billing error. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues you have experienced.
