We had a furnace that wasn’t working in a house that we had in California. We submitted a claim online with AHS and in less than a week, a contractor was sent out. It was delayed mostly because we had to work around the tenant’s schedule. After the repair, everything’s been fine and I haven’t had any more complaints. Having the warranty is very valuable and it’s worth it. We've also recommended AHS to other people. They've always been very responsive whenever we’ve had a problem and have taken care of it.

My heater wasn’t working and the reps of AHS answered and solved my problem in a timely manner. I needed an electrician and he got the electrician to come right out the same day, and usually, you have to wait. The electrician checked all the wires to make sure I would be able to get heat. The heater is now working fine. I've been with AHS for a while and they're good at coming out and fixing stuff. You don’t have to wait for a long time, and you don’t have to worry about them not fixing it. I recommend AHS to friends. I got my daughter and my niece to go with them. The warranty is good to have because you don’t always have the money. If I had to pay out of my pocket to get that heater fixed, ain't no way I would've gotten it fixed.

I bought a house and the downstairs furnace was not blowing hot air. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and found that their website was self-explanatory and very user-friendly. AHS then took my copay and assigned a company. I was given a time within 24 hours but it was right around the Christmas holidays, so it took them a little longer to get back to me. But I expected that because I submitted it on a Saturday before Christmas and they contacted me late Monday afternoon. We weren't living in the house yet though, so it wasn't an emergency. When the tech came, he introduced himself. He answered all of my questions and fixed everything satisfactorily. My son is sleeping downstairs and he has heat now. We immediately needed the warranty when we moved to the house and so far, it’s good.

I had an issue with some light sockets and an electrician sent by American Home Shield came out for it. We identified the problem pretty much right away, and the only thing was that he needed a CGI switch and he didn’t have one. He said he'd have to come back another time, and he did. However, when he put the CGI in, the switches didn’t work. We found out that there was a mix wire somewhere else that blew the CGI, but he fixed it and he was real helpful in explaining a lot of things. Everything has been good ever since.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your warranty needs.

Our washing machine flooded our house. It had a valve stuck open and the valve had to be replaced. Submitting the claim online was very easy. It took about an hour and a half to get David’s Appliance dispatched, which was very pleasing. They were Johnny-on-the-spot. The contractor was very good, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. The repair worked, but I wished that American Home Shield would cover the flood damage. The part that they replaced was $100, and the repair ended up costing us 81 bucks, so having the warranty definitely saved us money. It’s definitely worth having American Home Shield.

I like the pool company that came out for our pump. The contractor was very honest and helpful. We had another pool company and when they came out before, they cracked the lid to the pump. But they tried to put some glue in it to fix it instead of replacing the lid, and it was sucking in air. Plus there were some screws that belonged on the outside but they had somehow put them on the inside of the basket of the pool.
Then when it stopped running, I called them and the technician said we needed a whole new pump because they wanted money out of us. But I didn't think we needed a new pump and that was when we went with American Home Shield. Their contractor took care of it and he was great. The pool pump didn't need to be replaced. That pool company has come out for us before and basically, they've taught me everything I know about taking care of my pool. In fact, we've never had a problem with anybody who has come out here through American Home Shield. Everybody has been helpful, professional and wonderful.

The most recent claim I had with AHS was for a leaking handle of a shower. I tried calling American Home Shield and it is unbelievable how long I had to wait on hold trying to get an agent justto alert them that we're in a high rise. Yet American Home Shield has an uncanny ability to assign plumbers to us that don't work at high rises. And I've had it happen several times already where the whole claim would get dropped. I've tried requesting a company that does high rises and that has been met with mixed success. So, it's been a true hassle.
The contractor I like working is IGD Plumber. Their reps were professional and seemed to know what they were doing. But it took a very long time to have them because AHS first sent out someone else to diagnose the problem, which was a $75 charge. Then, they got the part, came back, and installed it which was another $75 charge. It took quite a long time between the first and the visit to do so I tried to follow up on billing because I got a past due notice on my latest $75. I said that they have a credit card on file and that they could deduct automatically. Because it was a changed company, it didn't transfer properly, so they said I had this $75 debt. They advised me to talk to the billing department which as another 20-minute hold. I was thoroughly disgusted.
They don't have a comment box for requests so I had to get on the phone to call them. But I get angrier every time because the time spent on hold is absurd. Sometimes, I have finished everything on my desk already while waiting for them. Their telephone system has got to be improved. So although they've sent out good subcontractors, I hate working with them. I will not be renewing with AHS. Run screaming from them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I bought a house on November 19th and my stove had an issue in November 20th. I have been waiting on this issue to get resolved since then. I submitted my claim online to AHS and their response was fast because I initiated the claim. American Home Shield had sent out a warranty repair person to fix my stove. The contractor screwed it up twice and ruined the two major holidays of the year. They have ruined Thanksgiving and I don’t have a working stove for Christmas. Furthermore, they don’t offer a reason why I am not taken care of. Then they’re trying to charge me another $75 for another visit to repair the same item that I had already paid for. I have to try to get that resolved. I’ve filed a few other claims that went well, so I was happy with the service. It’s just this recent one. If my service continues the way that it does, I’ll be canceling all the products that the parent company offers.

I explained to the rep from American Home Shield that I had been out of a heater for almost a week and that I needed a water heater. Without hot water, it was chilly here and I had my granddaughter visiting. The last guy whom I spoke to at AHS set the appointment up and the plumber came out the next day. He brought the heater and put it in. He did what he had to do and I gave him the money. Then, the other part came up when turning on and using the bathroom sink. My daughter was washing up with the water heater and she said that the water was going everywhere again, so I called AHS back and they said that it was another invoice.
I had to pay another $75 and I said that I didn’t remember doing that in the past. I also said that I was not going to argue with them. I said that the gentleman that was here that put a heater in would have repaired the sink for us, but he didn’t have the parts and I asked if they would have charged me still with him doing the double job. The next couple of days, another plumber came out from the same company and he was also very nice.
We’ve had some terrible people come out. The same people that AHS was sending out here for the washing machine and the refrigerator kept half-fixing them. It got to the point where there was leaking from the icemaker. It was gone for a week, but it came back, and if my counter wasn’t there, I would have fallen and broken my back. I got tired of calling in to people and getting the same people. They were not repairing anything, so we took the refrigerator and broke it up into pieces and put it in the trash. The person that came out to work on the washing machine told me it was a plumbing problem and he sent AHS a note back and said that he was not gonna charge me the service fee.
I’ve been with American Home Shield even when I was renting and I bought the house in ’03. Back in the ‘90s, when we came to California and I bought into this, AHS was helpful because I had my business started, I had a daycare. That way, I wouldn’t have to be bothering the owner and I kept it on for myself. As each year goes on, the fees are going up, but the service is getting worse because they are not getting good contractors. I am getting fed up now and I will start looking into another insurance for inside stuff. It was depressing. I have around seven friends that have left American Home Shield, but I try to maintain along with it because I have myself and my home, and my daughter has two properties and we don’t wanna be going here and there. My daughter has gone through pure hell with some of the situations in her property back in Jersey.

My dryer was turning on and it was going but then it wasn’t, so I filed a claim with American Home Shield online. About 20 minutes later, the contractor called to make an appointment with me. He was here about 15 minutes earlier which was absolutely great. I explained to him what was going on and he got everything he needed to fix it. He was done within 10 minutes. It was very fast and everything has been going perfectly since the repair. AHS is a good warranty company. The contractors they sent out are prompt and on time. In fact, I have referred quite a few people to American Home Shield.

Upon submitting the claim through the internet, AHS was very prompt on getting back to me. From there, they assigned a specific contractor, Premier Appliance Services, that I needed to work with. Whenever we call them, the answering service personnel has been very rude and the waiting period to get a service is longer than what we expected. When they come in, they do a visual check-up and order the parts, but then the waiting period is completely wrong.
The contractor usually gives a window of three hours. They said 9:00 to 12:00, but they always show up at 11:45. When I called back at 11:30 saying and said that the guy was not here and asked the specific time would be, the person on the phone said that my window was from 9:00 to 12:00, so they don’t know what was happening. If they’re not at my house already at 11:30, what are they gonna do when they come in? If they come in at 11:55, are they within the window of coming in?
We dealt with the two service techs. The first was a Russian guy. He was very abrupt. He looked at the issue and said what the problem was and that he needed to order a part. I said fine. The order-taking part took almost four weeks. They were finger-pointing and said that the warranty company didn’t order it properly. Then the warranty company said it was shipped to the contractor and the item was lost. We were the ones suffering for four weeks without functioning appliances. Then when they came in to install the broken part, it wasn’t what was broken, but then there was the main ideology that the problem was a circuitry. He came back two weeks after though because it takes two weeks to set up an appointment.
Once the appointment was set, he came in here and evaluated it. It was a wiring problem. When it was first examined, it wasn't done thoroughly. We did multiple examinations, multiple waiting, multiple come in, check-ups, and doing their work. The whole event took from the beginning of November to mid-December. It took them six weeks to fix the one dishwasher. Plus, from December until now, the refrigerator is still malfunctioning.
If the call volume is large, I wish AHS has a way to have them call back to me by leaving my number. There was a time where I had to wait almost 30 minutes for the receptionist to answer the phone. Then once I received the phone, they asked me to hold. Then I have to hold another 15 to 20 minutes. One time, the call reached almost about 40 minutes.

My daughter noticed leaking on top of the water heater from both sides of the pipe and it was draining down the side to the water heater. I went down there to check to make sure that what she said was legit and, yes, it was indeed legit. So, I called American Home Shield to make a request to get it repaired. I went through the automated system and then talked to a person. Then, the contractor, Niebuhr Plumbing called in at 6 o'clock the next morning and when they arrived, they went right to work. They were professional all around and courteous. Those guys got the work done, they knew what they were doing and I appreciate what they got done. I’d recommend this contractor.
I’m so glad I chose American Home Shield as I purchased my home to help me with my repairs needed. I would recommend them for anybody that’s beginning to buy a home or considering purchasing a home the first time. Having the insurance is a good thing. For any major appliances that need to be repaired, the cost versus value is very good. AHS replaces the appliances. Plus, the trained people who come in and repair the appliances are professional.

I first became a customer about nine months ago with two homes being covered. I submitted my first service request for my dryer, stove and refrigerator on 12/11/2018. The technician came out and was able to fix the dryer and stove the same day. The technician informed me he needed to get parts for the refrigerator. It is now 12/20/2018 and I just got off the phone with AHS after waiting over an hour for someone to answer and was told they are "searching" for the part and would not be able to give me an update until the part was found, then it would take an additional 3-5 business days for the part to reach the technician. I will not have a refrigerator for Christmas. Why does it take so long to "search" for a part? I purchased this warranty to prevent this very scenario from occurring.
I requested a manager and was told due to the holidays there was no manager that could take my call. She sent a manager call back request however I was told with it being the holidays not sure when they would get around to calling me back. Really!!! I could do a simple Google search and find out in seconds whether the part is available. I am thinking they don't want to replace it. This has been the worst experience I have been through with a company. I could have saved the monthly payments and purchased a new one last week. If I could give negative stars I would.
Good afternoon Michelle,

In trying to get an appliance worked on, that had previously been worked on under the policy, they decide that they do not cover freestanding ice makers, only those that are built into a refrigerator, under the "real estate" plan. Somehow I have "the wrong plan". This is an ice maker that had been repaired under the policy 2 years ago, I've had this house almost 4 years with coverage the entire time. Customer service has "dropped" my call twice and I've been on hold for over an hour waiting to talk to what is supposedly the "right" department. I should have learned my lesson when their pool coverage didn't seem to ever cover things that went wrong with the pool.

Our most recent claim was our water heater. We called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out. The person said that he couldn't get us until a week on the books. So I called American Home Shield again, they canceled the original contractor, and they sent Lowery Plumbing after that. Lowery Plumbing bashed AHS and said that AHS would not replace our water heater so they ordered a new part and got the water heater fixed. The next day, still doing the same thing so I called them back. They were really rude and they said that I have to call AHS.
I called AHS back and they said they sent Lowery Plumbing back out. Lowery Plumbing said that AHS would order a new water heater and as soon as it comes in, Lowery Plumbing would come to replace it. A week went by and when I finally called this week, I found out that the water heater was never ordered so I just said to cancel it as my husband and I replaced it. We hired a plumber. I'm just waiting for the receipt so I can fax over to get a check reimbursement that AHS said would take 10 to 14 days. AHS is great, it's just trying to get our story across is a process, and the hold time is ridiculous. It's frustrating trying to explain what's going on and they always assume that we're trying to pull a quick one. It's the way things get handled. Our warranty with American Home Shield came with the house when we bought it. I usually called them to submit a claim and they contacted the repair people. Then the contractor called me and set up a schedule. Their tech came out and told me what the problem was. He fixed the problem and let me know when it was done. It was pretty simple. But with the latest claim that we had with AHS for our hot water shower, the contractor still hasn't got the repair done, although it's the third time already. I found out that they offer less price but it wasn’t up to the standard, so I came back to AHS five months ago. My tenant called AHS for a claim as there was something wrong with the air handler in the AC unit at their house. Their service turned out great. People that came out there and fixed the issue. They did some additional work and didn’t charge us on our side. One thing I recommend to AHS is when a person is filing a claim, they need to be a little more detailed in what the work they performed and the breakdown of cost. When you see the receipt from both American Home Shield and the actual people that performed the work, it does not view a specific breakdown of the work that they did and the cost of that work. Nevertheless, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

If they tell me it’s $50 a month, I pay it. But when I submit a claim, I don’t wanna to get "The policy may not cover this. Every time we call American Home Shield, there’s an exorbitant hold time. It’s ridiculous. We’ve spent well over an hour on hold trying to get through, and that has happened more than once. We had a plumbing situation, and AHS sent someone out who said it was fixed, but it wasn’t really fixed. So, AHS had to send somebody else out. And we were charged for both instances even though it was part of the first call. So, that was not very pleasant. Their tech was very professional, answered all my husband's questions, and was in and out as quickly as he could. It took 24 hours from when I submitted the claim till when our dryer was fixed. It was a good experience.

My heater went out. I submitted the claim online and navigating the website was great and easy. The contractor contacted me within 24 hours. Eagle Heating & Air had to come out four times, the same guy three times and the last guy. They were all great. My unit’s upstairs and the guy took me there, showed me exactly what he thought and what he was doing and explained everything. He ended up replacing an igniter and the unit operated perfectly since the repair. Having this AHS warranty is great. I love it. People need to get it as soon as possible.

I initiate claims for American Home Shield online and I can't remember having any difficulties with the website navigation, especially since I'm challenged when it comes to technology. In my first claim, the ice maker had a leak in it and a tech from Sears fixed that. Then the second appliance guy from Premier Appliance put a new pump on the dishwasher and a control panel. As far as the claim for my ceiling fan and my smoke detector, that has never been done. The last call I had from the electrician was on November 20th and I told him that I wasn't feeling well. I was really sick and I thought he was gonna call me back, but I never heard anything more from him. He also kinda indicated to me when I was telling him about the problems I had that he didn't think that American Home Shield would fix them anyway. While the electrician has never come to the house to see my last claim, both the appliance guys who were sent out were excellent.

When we had a claim for a fire detector, the first people didn’t do their job but the second people that came out, JEM Electric, were outstanding. We had the most high-pitched squeal randomly throughout the course of the day causing my dog to tuck tail and cower constantly. Jose knew what was up, he did all the troubleshooting he needed to and put excellent notes about what he found in comparison to what the first techs didn’t even look for. He stayed for a little more than an hour. He found some differences between the connectors on the back between the different rooms and also how the connectors were not seated properly. He mentioned it on his notes. Since then, we haven’t had a recurrence of the initial problem that he came out to troubleshoot.
Our most recent claim was the refrigerator. The volume of water that is to be dispensed is a measured amount and as far as a glass putting underneath there and hitting the button and the water actually dispensing the proper amount is not happening. I did some troubleshooting, I called the tech and they told me that the problem was the valve that is operating the flow from the filter to the icemaker and the water dispenser. That was also why I’m only getting partial-sized ice cubes.
The first tech came out and just replaced the filter and the flow increased, but it didn’t fix the problem. My water still did not dispense to the proper quantity that it stated it should. I can put a measuring cup underneath it to one cup and it should be dispensing one cup but it consistently only dispenses three-quarters of the cup. The techs have initially been less than desirable, but American Home Shield has been great. They have been on top of it and made up for it 100%, and took care of me in an expeditious fashion. I thank them for that.

We were smelling a weird smell and we determined that it was coming from the vents in our house. We submitted a claim to AHS online and it was really easy. AHS sent me something immediately that tells me that a contractor has been assigned for my claim and then the next morning, I was contacted. It was super quick. I love AHS's whole system. They were sending the emails and texts about the status the whole time, which was great.
The Cabot Mechanical guy came out and went upstairs. The exhaust duct that goes from the furnace to outside to the roof, were super loose. One of them actually was disconnected. I reconnected it shoddily and told the guy about the duct and that we were smelling something weird. The contractor said that my job of reconnecting looks good. He said that he replaced one of the electrical component that was out in one of the furnaces. The contractor was a quiet guy. He did his job, gave me a quick summary, and then headed out.
I've never had a negative experience with American Home Shield, however, with my wife’s best friend, their air conditioning was out in the heat of summer here in the south of Arkansas, and it took weeks for American Home Shield to do anything. It's something that’s kind of been in the back of my head. I've almost canceled my subscription with American Home Shield a couple of times and I'm looking at my finances and looking at the money each month to month. But the return on investment right now with the warranty is very positive. My pool pump also went out and AHS replaced it. If it wasn’t for American Home Shield, I would be out a lot more money.

I live in Minnesota and last winter, it was below 0 and my furnace went out. I called American Home Shield and they couldn’t get somebody that is a normal vendor. They let me immediately go find a vendor then they reimbursed them quickly and in a timely manner. I was very pleased with the way they handled my claim. When I submit my claims, I like to talk to a person so I always wait to get ahold of a person. Then sometimes, I pay with a credit card ahead of time before the guy comes out. Sometimes, I wait until the guy comes out and they just hold my credit card, then I pay after the visit.
So far, AHS replaced my water heater and fixed my dishwasher, refrigerator, furnace, and air conditioning. I also get furnace check-ups at the beginning of every year. The contractors they have sent have always been very good. If I ask questions, they answer them and they have been friendly. Most of the people that come are local and they’ve always responded to me in a timely manner. Most of my claims have been handled in one appointment, too, though the one time the guy fixed the water heater, he went back the next day doing it. Then he came right back out in two days and replaced it. Overall, I’m very pleased with AHS.

I had a leak in a pipe and submitting the claim with American Home Shield was pretty easy. I called and told them what was going on, then they put the claim in and I got the call the same day from the plumbing company. Home Choice Services, the contractor with the plumber, was pretty good. They came out the same day, even though it was on a Sunday, and gave me the information. The plumber gave me the other company that he works with and that I needed to come out with the machines to dry up the walls and he called them for me. The repair is still ongoing and the contractor is trying to figure it out. They gave me some options to try first before making a bigger hole in the wall.

Our heating system wasn’t pumping out any heat. The downstairs was fine but not the upstairs area so we had to try and heat it up super high. I submitted my initial claim for the heating system online. I received a text message and an email from American Home Shield about the time. This was followed by a phone call to verify the time. A contractor came out the next day, the 29th of November. The problem was he did not submit the note or information that was supposed to be sent to AHS.
A second guy came out to figure out what was going on and he was fine. He said there was a damp something and that we needed to replace the filters. We just got our problem resolved the other day. My husband was there during the repair and he told me what was wrong. We were given a little receipt and it was gonna be billed to AHS.
Having American Home Shield is very valuable because you have to make sure you have some type of way to get things covered and not have to pay full price for it. But the amount of time I spent waiting for the repair of my heating system was ridiculous and I want to make sure that some type of credit is gonna be on the account. Now, I’m waiting.
Thank you for your positive feedback, Daja. We're glad to hear that your heating issue was resolved.

When there was a leak in my outside faucet, I submitted the claim online to AHS and it was relatively easy. The contractor came out after 24 hours. The guy had been here before and we had a rapport, so we went over what I thought was wrong and he said he can verify it one way or the other and then explained what he could and could not do under the contract. He fixed the problem, but my sink was 20 somewhat years old and I asked if I purchased the faucet could he have replaced it. He said that’s not part of the contract and it had to be broken. The faucet had to be leaking, not the spigot and there’s no preventative maintenance. I still have to call a plumber to come back eventually to do it.
I wish that if there were some other issues in the future, AHS could just replace everything. If I had already taken care of the stuff, I won’t have to worry about it. Other than that, AHS is good for you as you don’t know the emergency stuff that comes. It’s always good to have some kind of assurance even though you don’t use it. But again, we have caveats built around that. You have to be cognizant of the fact that there are certain things that would be covered and others that won’t be covered. My house is 23 years old, so there are some things that AHS doesn’t cover. It may cover the slight repair, but to fix the whole thing to what the cover is like, I could have just called the contractor by myself because I had the furnace in the attic repaired and AHS covered 10% of it. It’s something that I had to get done, so I just had it done.

Terribly disappointed with the customer service! I have been trying to get service on my tankless hot water heater since Monday night. The original contractor they set me up with wasn’t available until Thursday. When I called back to see if there was someone else that could come out, they cancelled the original contractor and sent me a referral to someone that doesn’t even work on my type of hot water heater. When I got rescheduled with the original contractor the Thursday spot was full and now they can’t come until Saturday!!!
I tried calling back to see if we could get our own contractor to come out and get reimbursed, I waited 25 minutes to speak to someone and then was placed on hold for over 45 minutes when I asked to speak to a supervisor! The telephone representatives speak very poor English and are hard to understand. There is no reason anyone should have to wait over an hour to speak to a human being when there are almost 8 billion people on the planet. The final frustration is that I never did speak to a supervisor to get my question answered. I was told that someone will call me back. I’m not holding my breath. I just hope the rep didn’t cancel my Saturday appointment too. Disgusted and frustrated and unable to take a hot shower.

Minimum of 25 minutes waiting to speak with representative, and then when we are disconnected - she fails to call me back! So after ANOTHER 30 minutes on hold, I speak with someone about a $75 service call fee that was taken from my bank account for a service that was NEVER done. Now I have to wait 10-14 business days for a refund. Every single time I try to contact them, it is an ordeal. Hold times are ridiculous and there is no other way to contact them - not email, live chat or carrier pigeon.
When I complain about the hold times - as I said previously, minimum of 25 minutes every single time - they said they are experiencing high call volumes. For 16 years! HA. It has definitely gotten worse over the last several years. They used to allow me to choose my service provider from their list, but this last time they said it was computer-generated and chose some random company. If I am satisfied and want to use a provider from a previous problem - I should be able to choose them. In summation, customer service has steadily declined over the last 16 years and I am strongly considering changing home warranty companies to someone that values me as a customer and values my time.

That contractor disassembled our unit and left with the promise we would hear from him the next day. A week passed and we had not heard from anyone. We called AHS and we were on hold for an hour and a half. Another contractor was sent out who also gave us a runaround.
We checked both contractors with the BBB. Both contractors were rated F by the BBB. When we brought this to the attention of AHS, we were quickly informed that AHS is not responsible for damage or neglect by any contractor and any damage in result was not their liability. Wow! Today is December 19th 2018 and we just had a new unit installed with no assistance from AHS. I would recommend keeping money in a special account for home repairs and not waste your money on AHS. I put in the claim in early July through my smartphone and the American Home Shield website was very easy to work with. The first guy who came out said that it wasn't fixable. He could replace everything in there, but I'm gonna have the same issue. He took almost over a month. Then the second guy changed everything except for one part. Finally, the third guy thought that changing that part will fix it. So after a taking a long time, the ice maker was fixed 3 weeks ago.
All the techs were good and knew what they were talking about but it would be great if American Home Shield could improve on the timing. When we request something next time, it shouldn't take that long and three different shops. Still, American Home Shield is a good warranty and service. It's good to have the protection versus not having warranty. So definitely, I would recommend them to a friend.

One of my first claims with American Home Shield was for a pipe that was leaking. It was a weird experience. They were sending in multiple people, one for the Sheetrock, one for the pipe, and I was getting told that the pipe wouldn’t be covered for certain reasons. It was just new to me to know that it would've been covered if it was a natural shifting. It seemed that there was a lot of loopholes. So that first experience wasn’t the best, but ever since then, everything else have been up and up. I like that American Home Shield allows you to pay after or before the service is done.
When I was having issues with my heater, I put in a claim with American Home Shield through their website. I noticed it’s always faster over the website. Submitting the claim over the phone is not as user-friendly. It brings them to another part, to another part, to another part, and it takes me to a part, to a part, to a part that I never seem to get directed to where I wanna go. It is much easier when I go through the website. After submitting the claim, I'll receive an email containing the company's name that is going to come.
The same air company has been coming to fix my air issues. It's been pretty much the same tech who comes out. He is very knowledgeable and informative. He went through all the tips. For my heater claim, the tech told me the problem was my thermostat. I have a smart thermostat, and he was able to bypass it and the heat came on. But he couldn’t fix it that day and he told me that I had to call my security company. And then my security company had to come to change the thermostat.

However, they said that even though the contract says they can repair or replace, there are two different paragraphs in the contract. They want to go with the one that says they can offer us cash, but not install. They want to give us $366 instead of just getting a new one and installing it. They want to give us a flat amount, which isn't enough to install it. I asked them to explain to me why they're not honoring the wording in the contract, and they just kept repeating that same thing over and over.
If American Home Shield is not gonna replace and install, then I'll wait. I'll just learn to live without a microwave. The first gentleman that came out there did not fix the issue. He came out there again and did not fix the issue. We didn’t have a lot of confidence at the time but we asked the vendor and told them we didn’t want that guy to come back out here again. He was friendly and polite enough, but was unwilling to spend the time to figure out what the problem was. So, we got a second opinion which I liked. AHS said that we'd have to pay the service fee if it was the same opinion as the first electrician. But if they would come up with a different opinion for the repair, then we wouldn't be charged.

But our dishwasher's about 10 years old and after he left, we noticed one of the spindle things, the things that come up that set your plates, was broken off. They then tried to get someone sooner but that was the shortest amount of time that I could get any service. The guy that I talked to was very professional though and since the service, everything has been operating fine. Having a warranty on my property is very valuable. It helps me sleep at night knowing that I have coverage that I can call if I have an issue. AHS works well and I've enjoyed my experience with them. It's very convenient and everybody gets it done very quickly majority of the time.

We filed a claim for the furnace through the automated system on the phone and it was easy. It just didn't give the opportunity to add any extra comments when needed. The contractor sent by American Home Shield was on time. He did his job and fixed the issue in one visit. It was something minor that needed to be exchanged. Now, we're working on the water heater. The contractor came out to look at it and they told us what was wrong with it. We just gotta figure out how to come up with the rest of the money. Overall, everything's fine with American Home Shield.
Good morning Teresa,

The air conditioner at my home stopped working and I used American Home Shield's website to submit a claim. It was easy navigating through the site. I've been using it for more than a year. Then, they got a contractor out in two days and they said they need to order some part. The air conditioner is not yet repaired and it has been almost a month. Other than that, American Home Shield has some of the best warranty. I've had a good experience.

I contacted American Home Shield to submit a claim for the air conditioning and they gave me a company by the name of Myers. I called in again and I complained about the young man because he blocked my way, in my hallway, in my own home. The first time he came out here, I asked him why he didn't it out. The thing was still freezing up. He wanted to be argumentative and wouldn't let me pass him. I was trying to be very polite about it. He ordered a bunch of stuff and he said that I needed more Freon. The unit was one year old and he said I needed all kinds of items underneath the house to upgrade. When I found that out, I told AHS to send me somebody else and send me the ones that were out here before, which was Affordable Heating and Air. When they came out, the Freon was not low and the unit only needed one part. They fixed it and I've had no issues whatsoever since
AHS didn't give me a choice to choose whoever I wanted. They automatically sent Myers out here and I had trouble with them. I would rather go online and pick who I want -- somebody that I dealt with before and somebody that I can trust that they work with, which is Affordable Heating and Air. They were the ones that put in the system initially.
The techs at Affordable Heating and Air are super nice people. They will listen and they will ask questions first about what's going on. It gives them a feel of what may be going on. They found out the problem. Affordable Heating and Air is number one. They are a 5-star company and they are very nice, polite people. I don't care for Myers now because I felt like they threatened me in my own home. I called American Home Shield and Myers, but they just blew it off like it was nothing to it. They also had the nerve or the audacity to give me a call about a month later.
They said that they got our parts in and that they were gonna come out and fix it. I was feeling irritated and I went off on those people and told them not to ever call me again. I've had people out here from other various companies to fix the refrigerator and the leaking pan, Anybody that I've ever had out here that worked through American Home Shield had been 5-star people, except Myers Heating and Air.
After Affordable Heating and Air came back out, the unit has been working great. I showed them the copy that the young man gave me and they said that my unit was not low, and the tech thought that Myers wanted to add another eight pounds. I knew something was wrong and I was right about getting a second opinion. When I first signed up with American Home Shield, I wasn't quite sure. I’m a hard guy to sell, but my sister had been with them for a few years and she said that they are good people and I oughta give them a try. When we bought the house, it came with the package deal and any time I've ever called in and talked to any representative, they have always been very kind and helpful and thoughtful, so I can't complain about American Home Shield. They are number one, 5-star in my book.
Good morning James,

I recently purchased a condo/townhome. My husband is a stroke survivor and has lost speech and I have to work full time to make ends meet etc, etc, etc. So when I got the condo my realtor said that it came with a home warranty program through AHS - thought I really hit the lottery and was so thankful. The first week we moved in to the condo - the outlets were 'shorting" out as soon as we plugged a lamp with 2 bulbs!! My ordeal started with me trying to get a service call placed with AHS. I have attempted 5 times to get through in the last 3 weeks. Every time I called in between my 15 min break or 30 min lunch break - since I worked at a call center- I was on hold with music and message telling me- "my call is important etc, etc" but never got to any rep.
One time I even put the request to call me after the 40 or 50 min wait and when the callback came - quickly answered it but to my amazement it still went to a 20 min hold that I had to end the call to get back to my work. So today I called around 7.40 am while driving to work (at 8.00 am) and got to speak with Miriam who mentioned that I had to mention how many outlets etc, etc, and where all it was not working - I mentioned I had not checked everything but wanted someone to come and check everything - she said it did not work like that since if they did not put down what needed to be looked at they will not check that!!!
I then asked if I could get the name and number of a supervisor (since I was nearing my time to log in to my job). At first she said there was not one and then she said they could not give the direct number. Then when I mentioned, "You know I can still get this info if I go online and then I would also have to mention your details"- she gave me Rhonda ** as the name... So I am still hanging in the air to get some service. (;<).
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Paid $75 service fee just to call someone else - I had a backed up main sewer line when I got up on Saturday December 8th in my new home. I remembered that I bought a home warranty with AHS so initiated a claim through their website. $75 and 30 minutes later a plumbing company called to set up an appointment. GREAT! For Tuesday (four days later). NOT GREAT. I called AHS to tell them that this is an emergency and that I needed to be able to use my toilet, showers, kitchen sink, etc. After being on hold for one hour AHS agreed to send someone else. They suggested SDL PLUMBING INC which I searched online and found that they have terrible reviews on Yelp. I asked if there is another company they can contact and was told that they're the only one they can send.
SDL PLUMBING INC sent out one plumber who inspected my house to find the clean out. I pointed out the clean out outside of my bathroom and he said the pipe is for something else. I was quoted $620 to get the pipes cleaned through the roof which was not covered by AHS home warranty. Since AHS told me that there is no other company who they could send out I contacted several plumbers myself. Roto-Rooter came out around 7pm on that day and was able to clean my pipes through the clean out I had pointed out to the plumber that AHS had sent. Their service cost me $350.
When I called AHS to get reimbursed they said that the plumber who fixed my issue was not authorized by AHS and therefore they could not pay me back. I am concerned that they do authorize the use of a plumber that obviously does not know his trade, yet cannot support their customers when they do find a qualified service provider, who not only was able to resolve the issue well under 4 days and correctly identify the clean out pipe. I am highly dissatisfied with the service received by AHS and will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau.
Good afternoon Noel,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience and the contractor that was unable to complete the repairs. Per the review, I am aware that you are seeking a reimbursement for the outside contractor repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

We had a leak coming into our bedroom from the master bath. The plumber not only left all the sheetrock dust, and pieces all over the carpet, he neither had a shop vac with him to clean up, nor did he soak up the water to test the patches, neither did he ask my husband for a vacuum, at least. I was not present when this happened, my husband was. My husband was in the Navy for a big part of his life, so he did not find it odd when the plumber basically told him to clean up himself, and put a fan on the area that was wet to see if it would dry. Which it did not, and we had to make call after call to get them to come finish the job correctly. And this was not the end of it, he left the pipes loose, and the shower head moved all over the place. When I called to get this fixed, it took a week's worth of calls to finally get in touch with someone, and not even then was it done.
The plumber blamed it on the previous owner, and said he would charge $225 for an "easy fix," basically telling us to fix it ourselves. But if that was the case, how come we'd never had a problem with the shower head until he came? Not only this, he also told my husband to call AHS back, and see if they had anyone to cover the holes he made on our wall. I called, and AHS told me the plumber himself should've called them to give them the dimensions of the holes, and they could not do anything without the plumber's information. So, there went another week. I thought that maybe this had been a lone contractor issue, but the sheetrock guys who came out did the same thing. I also had to pick up after them, and I have pictures that show the mess they left behind.
Every time I try calling, I am put on at least a 45 minute hold, sometimes even hung up on. When I finally got through to someone, they informed me the warranty only covered the patching up of holes, not repainting. So their contractors leave a mess in the house, don't finish their job properly, and make holes in my wall that they're only partially responsible for. Forget going 'above and beyond' for the customer, the bare minimum would've sufficed. At this point, we'd much rather bring in our own contractors, and pay full price than to deal with this incompetence. We have let our realtor know, because there is no way we will ever purchase this again for any future properties.
Good afternoon Giovanna,

Stewart’s Appliances came out recently and they were very professional. They inspected the oven and decided it was one of the computer PCMs. There are two of them on this particular oven range and one of them was bad, so he went back to order the part. Then upon further determination by American Home Shield, they figured they would replace the whole oven. The only bad part of it was that the oven that we had was more expensive than the money they allotted us to purchase a new item up to the quality. We had to pitch in a little bit more money to get the same type of oven in our house.
It also took too long for American Home Shield to decide. It was a couple of weeks that we had our oven down before they decided. Plus I had to pay for the item that I wanted and then wait to get reimbursed. They should've provided a check to begin with. They told me they were gonna pay me up to $819 and some change, and the cost of the unit was originally $1,600. We ended up paying $1,100 with a discount I got through a military discount, but they wanted a proof of purchase prior to giving us the money. Nonetheless, they did what they said they would do. The service paid for itself in this particular instance.

On the other hand, I recently had a problem with the attic fan and AHS sent a contractor within their timeframe of 24hrs after I submitted the claim for it. There was a problem that we had repaired with the dryer, but the noise came back, so we called American Home Shield back. The service company that originally did the repair said they would send somebody out and they did. The tech checked the same back apart and said that it needed a brand-specific part. She wrote down a number on the thing and the part and she gave me the receipt.
When I didn’t hear back for two weeks, I called and left a message, but I didn’t hear back. I checked with the number they originally texted me and finally when I called a third time, I got them on the phone. The tech said that the warranty company had not approved it and that they couldn’t do the work. I was perplexed. I called American Home Shield and the operator said they would call the service person and find out what the problem was because they didn’t decline it. The company sent them something and it didn’t have enough explanation.
The dryer was making that noise and rattle and I couldn’t even use it. I had been using my neighbor’s. When the tech called back to schedule the service, she said that my warranty wouldn’t cover it. She also said that it was not a warranty item and they didn’t cover it if there was a noise in my washer. I said it was more than a noise. She asked if the heating element was still working and I said that I thought so, but I couldn’t use the washer when it was making the screeching and it sounded like something was scraping. It was worse than when the sound originally appeared.
She said that it was not an item that was covered by warranty and that they couldn't help me. They couldn't send somebody out. I said that they sent somebody out originally and they made whatever was happening worse, so she should at least take a look at it, but she said no. I called American Home Shield back and they sent the second service company. He came, took the part again, and put it together, and the noise was gone. The second contractor was great. It has been two weeks now since he was here and the dryer has been working fine. I still feel a little rumble, but I don’t care about that. It's drying and it’s not scraping. Whatever was scraping and making a very high sound is gone, so it’s good to go.
The experience with the other company was weird and bizarre. They wouldn’t even call back and it was almost like they had let us lapse and they just made up a story. It was very strange. In the past, I've also had my fridge and freezer serviced and the guy was excellent. I've had the dryer serviced and the washer too, and they were excellent. It was just hit or miss.
I've had some really good service people and some whopper bad ones with American Home Shield, and I don’t know if I’ll be renewing with them. We had an issue with the plumbing and one of the people they sent was a disaster. They caused a leak in our bathroom which totaled $1,600 to repair all the siding near our toilet because the toilet wasn’t filled properly. When you have things like that, I'm a little hesitant to have faith in the people they send initially. The bathroom thing bugged me. I thought AHS would try to help more and I was disappointed.

This transfer again put me on hold for another 7 minutes after which the original person returned to the line and indicated that she indeed was able to cancel my contract because the cancellation department was experiencing a high volume of calls.
Good morning Thomas,

It has been 10 days, still no repair. We have been told 3 to 5 days for the third time. Still have not been able to speak to a supervisor. My husband is 70 years old and handicapped and it is very difficult to do without heat in a home for this length of time. My husband tried again this morning to contact you and after 30 minutes, we were disconnected. This is very disappointing and I am trying not to get so upset but when you are cold in your own home, it is not easy.

I was renting my home and had American Home Shield as "extra insurance" in case things needed repair. When my furnace died they sent one of their selected contractors to have a look. Nothing was happening in time, while my tenants were freezing. I had to pay for the new furnace and AHS provided no assistance. My furnace was covered by the contract, but they paid nothing. They made excuses and blamed the contractor (the one they selected). Bottom line - I felt cheated and AHS provided no help. The contract I has was useless.

American Home Shield has been wonderful with their response. They were efficient and we were satisfied. The dryer and washer stopped working on the same day. They were brand new when I purchased them, and they both didn’t work that night when my wife was doing the laundry. I call in my claims and the reps have been perfect. The contractors had to order parts, and it took about six days to get the parts.
There wasn’t a lot of clothes to be washed so the waiting period was okay. And they did come and fix it, so everything was okay. The warranty has been extremely important. We bought new appliances for the whole house, but we don’t know how long they’re gonna last. And with those emergencies, it’s good to know that you can just call and have somebody come and take care of it without meeting extreme expenses.

I had an electrical issue and I was very pleased with the response and professionalism of the technician that American Home Shield sent. He was also very diligent to make sure the repair was done correctly and timely. My only concern with American Home Shield is that when I go online to file a claim, I can only request one repair at a time. And this time I requested repair, it was $100 service fee. I prefer that there would be multiple services to a request, particularly, if there are minor repairs that could be done at the same time.

I called American Home Shield when their contractor came out to service my furnace. When I call them to make the claim and they talk to me, everybody's nice, very helpful, and I haven't had a problem so far. Their technicians are very professional and the quality of their work is high. I like this one much better than the one that used to do it. The one in the past gave us spiels, and when we really need them, you can even find them anymore. After the technician left, for some reason, the furnace was not heating. It was running, but its temperature was going down so I called them back to come on and check it, and they said they didn't find anything wrong. All they did was to tap on the pipe and it started working fine then.
I called AHS back because it started doing the same thing again. But I didn't even have them come out. I tried their technique, shut it off myself and turned it back on. It was working fine and it's still working fine so far. I haven't had any problem with the company itself, but there's something freaky with my thermostat. AHS is a good company and they've been good for me. It was something about their service, the one that serviced it. I've been with American Home Shield for quite a number of years now, and I'm planning to continue. I would highly recommend them.

So far, American Home Shield has been helpful in terms of the price and what’s needed to be done. I filed a claim for my forced-air gas furnace over the phone. It’s easy to do that. The first time I called in, I got the automated system. But the most recent was with a live person. The contractor they sent out was willing to do what was needed to make the furnace work properly again. The furnace was back up and running after the first visit. But the second visit with a different contractor was much more insightful. There were more things pointed out that needed to be done to avoid these problems in the future. So there were things that could’ve also been said and done during the first visit and that really needed to be done then. Nonetheless, everything’s been working well and American Home Shield did a good job.
It’s definitely good to have American Home Shield for the first year any time you’re moving into a new home. I would recommend for anyone buying a home that if it’s brand new specs or if it’s an older home, to always push to get the American Home Shield for the first year. Then after that, they should really dive into whether it make sense for me or whether they should hire another company.

American Home Shield was great. I called in to submit my claim for my toilet that was clogged and backing up. The claims representative I spoke to gave me some insights that I didn't know about, and I was very happy. The contractor who came out did a great job. I didn't know it was the drainage pipe that was the problem. He had to clean it out outside. Some things had changed in the yard and I couldn't tell him where it was. He went around that and still unclogged the toilet. He was great, and he stayed until he got it. Before these two things that happened, I didn't really like using AHS, but they turned it around. I'm feeling 100% better with them.

I call in the claims with American Home Shield and the lady reps on the other end are fantastic. They're really good and they get back to me. AHS could get more people on the phone. The waiting is hard, but that's normal when you're calling a service department. Also, everybody speaks English well, so I have no problem. The contractors that were sent were fine. They got right back to me as well and they gave me advance notice when they were coming. They were very good. I have been with AHS since August, and then things were breaking, so getting the policy was a perfect timing.
One time, AHS sent a guy to fix my refrigerator but the problem was more detailed than he realized. So they called another guy that specializes in the anti-freeze. Then that second guy solved the problem the very next day. He did a great job. I'm supposed to call the appliance man today. I'm getting my dishwasher replaced. AHS is very fair on that also and it's only gonna cost me $20 or $30 because I'm gonna upgrade to a different model.
My home upstate is also covered by AHS, and now, it's going through a guy upstate. But he just gave me a quote on how much it would be to repair the appliance, because he's not hired by AHS and AHS doesn't have a person in my area upstate. They told me to get the guy, and I got him. That was when I bought the machine many years ago. He's talking to AHS and giving them the part numbers needed. I don't know yet how that claim is gonna turn out because that was just opened, but I'm very satisfied with AHS. I'm glad I got the policy.

I used a chemical cleaner to try and help drain it. Also, I tried to use a hand snake, but it couldn’t get it to go. The next best thing I could do was call a plumber through American Home Shield. I called AHS and the person they sent over was really professional.
He asked me questions about it, trying to help gauge what exactly was going on with the pipes. He eventually just used an electronic snake for about 20 minutes and he said no hair or anything came up. His take was that when the work was being done on the house, either painters or construction workers were washing their tools in the shower instead of cleaning them outside until that clogged the drain with paints and all kinds of stuff. He got the job done really well and it has been running even better than it did when I looked at the house originally.

They fixed the unit before and it was working fine, then it stopped. So, they were coming back out and I wasn't charged another $75 because it was with the same occurrence.
So far, all the contractors that AHS sent out were really good, except for the one time when I was having an electrical problem with the air conditioner. They sent the one company out that fixed it but it didn't work. They had to come back out again a second time and fix it, but still it didn't work. That was at the end of the summer. Then the next year, the air conditioning did the same thing. They came out and fixed it for several times then the one company that they've been sending at one point said that they were not going back out there anymore. But I told them that they had to. So, that became a real problem with that company that was dealing with the air conditioning.
If AHS would look back in the history where one company has been taking care of something that's been a repetitive issue, they need to keep sending that same company. Because what I ran into was the one company was telling me I needed a new air conditioning unit then the next company they sent when it failed the third time said that since they didn't work on it the first time, they couldn't verify if I was with the same company and they gave me the runaround. So, keeping a log of what companies are sent and trying to keep some continuity with that would be nice. Other than that, I've recommended people to AHS. I told them that AHS always helps me out and that their reps were always courteous. You just really need to keep up with which contractors don't do well for you then let them know and they'll get you another contractor.

It just takes too long to be on hold. I have American Home Shield for a few years now. I had their warranty at my last home and transferred it over here. They were good up until the last problem I had. My heater wasn’t working and they sent someone. The heater is called the package unit and it is a heater and air conditioner in one. I didn’t know exactly what was wrong with it but the guy seemed to get it going. He said that it was fixed but when I came home, it was not. It was hot for half an hour in my home but after that, it was cold again. I called them back and they said that it was over a $2,000 fix and that they had to wait for American Home Shield to approve it.
I called American Home Shield and they said that they were gonna get back to me and that they haven’t received the report from the company yet. They were blaming each other on why it was not getting fixed and I’ve been going back and forth with them the last week. I made the call early December and they came out on December 11th, but it is still not fixed until now.
Before that, my issues were mostly plumbing issues and it would always be small. Something would get clogged and I’d call American Home Shield, then they would come and unclog it. I also had one heater issue two years ago and it was fixed right away. However, with the recent heater issue, AHS is probably going with a new company. It looked like they opened the unit up and put a lighter on it so that it could go. If I wanted to heat my house, I could stay up there with a lighter but that is not something I wanna do. That was what the guy did and just left.
I usually submit my claims online and this is the most phone calls I’ve had with AHS. This is now a major issue, although it would be different if they said that they couldn't fix it. They are not responding at all and I just keep getting the runaround. They could at least be straightforward in saying that whatever I paid for doesn’t cover whatever I’m trying to get. Every other time, AHS have come through. But this is the first time that they are not coming through and are ignoring the situation.

Some of the contractors they've sent out were really good like this guy who put the right part in my water heater. He knew what he was doing, did the job really well, fixed the water heater and smiled. I also like a certain company for my pool. They've been here before and they know my pool so I know if I'm not here, I could trust them to be here to do the job. The only reason I keep AHS is for the pool.
Otherwise, I'd get rid of them 'cause there are some that don't do everything they should and doesn't even give their names when they walk in. Some also forget to bring their tools along so I had to give them mine to get anything done. I had a plumbing problem in one of the bathrooms. I bought the whole kit myself to put it in, and the contractor would only put a washer in ‘cause American Home Shield told him all he could do is minimal. In the two claims that I submitted, the contractors were really good and quick. One tech found a piece of plastic that had worked its way into the pump motor. The other tech had to come out a couple of times because it was one of those things where you couldn't see right away if the fix was right. But they both came back quickly. I had a claim for my washing machine and American Home Shield sent out a service technician. He said that the drum had detached from the washer and that they could repair it, but because it was so old, it’s probably best to replace it. But when I followed up on it, American Home Shield said that the service technician told them it was due to overloading the machine and that they are not going to cover the cost. I asked for a second opinion and they sent someone else out. That service technician said it was a plumbing job and that he did not find anything wrong with the machine.
Usually, Home Shield would call and tell me if a plumber is gonna be coming out, but this time, I was not informed that a plumber was going to come out. Still, I received a call from a plumber without knowing what was going on and once we got clarity on why the plumber was involved, I scheduled the appointment for the plumber to come out. But the plumber said it wasn’t a plumbing issue. He said he did not find anything clogged in the pipes and since he was not an appliance person, he said he really didn't know what was wrong with the machine.
Then the next correspondence I received was American Home Shield sending me a letter saying that they weren’t going to cover the repair because it was due to overloading. So, I really wasn’t pleased with how my claim was handled. But in the past, I haven't had a problem with American Home Shield. All in all, it’s a good company and the warranty is worth having. American Home Shield doesn't hire the best companies to resolve home repairs. In the last couple of months, it seems that the issues are never resolved the first time. The contractors seem to have to come back out at least a second time to look at the issue again and fix it. I’m still having an issue with my plumbing in the bathtub, which has been going on since December. Today was the third visit from the contractor that they use, High Priority Plumbing, and the issue is still unresolved. That's frustrating because the work that they're doing is impacting the work that I would have to have on my home by my insurance company. Until the plumbing issue is resolved, it doesn’t make sense to tear up my hardwood floors or the ceiling where the leak is coming from because a week or two months later, the plumbing issues may still come up.

I had a couple of issues recently and one of them was a clogged or leaky drain. AHS sent someone out to repair it and he did really well. Then I had an issue with my refrigerator. I submitted a claim online then I talked to one guy. I asked him a question and he answered that for me. Then he said that the contractor would be out to repair it. But the problem with American Home Shield is, you have no access to them. You have to wait and when you call them, you're put on hold and you may sit there for an hour or an hour and a half before you talk to anybody. I also don't like the time that it takes for AHS to make up their mind on what they're gonna do. This has been a long repair and I've been without my refrigerator since before Thanksgiving.
But AHS has gotten in touch with me about it. The first repair person that they sent out was from Galloway Plumbing and he was the one that really slowed this things down. It was a disaster. That guy came out, opened it up, looked at it, and said that he didn't know what was wrong with it. He said that it froze up and needed a defrost kit. He said he'd have to order the part and he would be back. When he came back, he put it in and said that everything should be okay. But the next morning, it was doing the same thing. It only cools in the bottom half of the refrigerator and the freezer.
So, I called him the very next morning and he told me that he needed to get a hold of AHS and see what they wanted him to do. Then he said he'd get back with me. This happened on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and I waited for his call Finally, I called and got his answering machine. I told him that I gotta go to town and asked him to call and let me know if he was coming or not. But I never heard from him. So, I went through Thanksgiving without a refrigerator. This guy's name was Allen and that Monday morning, I called him again bright and early. I told him who I was and that the refrigerator still wasn't working. He said that he knew me and that I bugged him all weekend long over the holidays. He also said that it was a holiday and he didn't answer his phone on a holiday to spend time with his family. But I told him that I never talked to him and I just left him a message on Wednesday, so I didn't bug him.
Then, AHS sent another guy out for a second opinion the day before yesterday and he said that the computer board went out on the refrigerator. Now, I'm waiting on parts. And if he doesn't fix it, then I gotta wait forever to get another refrigerator. They were supposed to order them yesterday and they were supposed to be shipped here. And this guy told me to call him as soon as I get them, then he'll come put them on. But I could go through Christmas without a refrigerator. Also, the company that AHS first sent out is 45 minutes away while the guy that they sent out who's gonna probably end up fixing it and can do the best job is 15 minutes away.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for a leak in the water pipe in the ceiling of the basement. This was kind of an emergency because I had water coming down to my light fixtures in my basement that has just been completely remodeled, with a brand-new carpet. AHS gave me to Budget and I was then able to call Budget and tell them what was going on. They said they had somebody in the area and he was working that time, but they would get him out to me next. That was really helpful and I really appreciated that, but that reflects more on Budget probably than it does on AHS.
The Budget contractor that was sent out was very quick, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. He did a great job. I've had AHS for 20 years and that service call was the most positive experience I've had with them. I think I was just lucky that a contractor was here within a couple of hours because other times, AHS gets back to me within 24 hours. It has changed over the years on how long it was supposed to be. Some of the reps I talk to, however, are rude. They assign a contractor to come out even though I've said that I'm dissatisfied with that person. I have people from a heating and cooling company that does the maintenance of my unit, so I'd like them to come out. But the AHS reps said they just chose and they didn't have anything.
One time I looked up Better Business Bureau markings on a contractor and they have a very poor rating, so I didn't want them. But AHS said they do their own rating and they cannot change it once they've told me who it is. But that sounded like that’s not true. If it is, then it is their computer program that won't let them alter because that was before they've actually given me the name, but the person hasn't been contacted yet. Other times, the AHS reps have been efficient at sending out the request to the contracting agency. But other times, I've called several hours later and they haven't gotten it yet and there was never a request.
We always have people go back to where they were, and I complained about that. But with AHS, I never get to say who I want. After I had another person out for air conditioning four times within a month, the next time I called AHS, I said I'd like the contractor to be different. Originally, AHS said no. But they agreed eventually, and the email I got was with a different name. They gave me Budget, which was great, but I didn't get to say that I wanted Budget and AHS doesn't wait for a request. If I say, "Here's what my problem is," they’ll say, "What's the nature of your problem?" That is why I submit claims on the phone. Otherwise, there are no ways to fill in the information on the issue. If AHS happens to plug somebody that I’m not happy with, that's too bad because they cannot change it. It's very frustrating.
I got divorced and I live alone. This is a different house, so it's a different policy. But it is the same things with AHS, apparently, and I like a little respect. I pay my $55 every less than a month and I'm not somebody that calls and complains about things a lot, but I like to feel that I'm the important part of this unit, not that American Home Shield is the most important part of this unit. The only reason that I keep the AHS warranty is because I've been here in this house for 13 years and I know things are gonna start breaking down. I paid all that money every blasted month and several years in a row, there was no claim. If I stop with AHS now, it will seem like I just threw away all of that money. The impression that somebody gets with AHS is pretty consistent, however. AHS doesn't give a damn. They're trying to think of ways where they can get out of helping you, and they don't care whether you're happy with it.
There was one AHS rep who was outrageously rude and I somehow tried to make a complaint about that. She wouldn't change anything. Still, other reps have been very nice and said that they were sorry that that has happened, and that they would send somebody out, that kind of thing. With the reps at AHS, it's 50/50 at best. It depends on who you get. There's a good chance that it's a rep that you won't like, that treats you like, "What are you doing calling us?"

That was his second time coming out to my house and he took care of everything he needed. The first time I had experience with him, he had to order the part and then come back. But this time, he had everything he needed, so everything was taken care of at one time. Everything has been working fine since then.

People should get American Home Shield. They will not regret it. I'm really proud and honored that I am a member of the company. They're always on it whenever I make contact with them. I call them for my claims since I'm not an online person. I'm 70 years old and I'm old school. With American Home Shield, I have a peace that I can call them and I don’t have to go in the pocket with a whole lot of expenses. I just have to pay the $75 deductible and the claim is gonna be taken care of.
I contacted American Home Shield for my two commodes in my guest bathroom and in my master bedroom. They would steadily run and you just work with the handle. The fixtures were very old and were probably in at the beginning when the house was built in 2005. They needed to be replaced. American Home Shield is always on it with the people that they contract with and some of them are very good. They told me who was gonna do the work. The technicians came right on out the same day when I got in touch with AHS and they got right on it. They were very cordial.
There were two guys and one of them was in training. He was the one who worked on the guest bathroom. The other went into the master bedroom and made adjustments to the commode. I thought the fixtures were gonna be replaced but the technician said the adjustments were all it needed. I haven't heard it run when it flushes so it worked out. But the commode in the guest bathroom just kept running when the technician released it. It kinda stopped then it just ran. I had to call back the company and the guy came back out. AHS replaced that commode.

My husband started getting information about AHS through emails. My father also has American Home Shield on his house in West Virginia and he's had to use it several times for different things, and he's been very happy. So, it was something that I wanted to do. Our most recent experience with AHS was when our lights started flickering and we weren't sure if there was a short. We sent an email to AHS. We did it online and then I got a callback and we set it up. The technician came out and he was wonderful, very courteous, very professional, explained to me what was going on and what had happened.
He was incredible. He told me that we had smart switches and they had gone bad, so he could replace them with a smart switch or he could put a regular switch in. I just had him put regular switches in because it was one in the garage and one in our bedroom, and we had an outlet replaced in our bathroom. I would love to have him come back for any electrical issue.

I've had a number of different services that American Home Shield has taken care of, and they've always been very good about it. I had a fine experience with my last claim, but the company they sent out for my microwave was horrible. They're giving me problems. The smart board went out on my microwave and then I submitted a claim online to AHS. The vendors took my microwave out had my microwave for a month. There were a lot of calls back and forth between me and American Home Shield to try to get my microwave issue resolved. The contractor's rep was not helpful at all. When I said I wanted to speak with somebody above her, she said, "Well, they're gonna tell you the same thing I told you." So I said, "Well, then let them tell me that." Nevertheless, I've recommended AHS to other people. They're good about taking care of warrantable items.

American Home Shield is worth its weight in gold. People should definitely get it for the peace of mind that it provides.
I filed a claim online for the heat exchanger on my air conditioner. Within that afternoon, I got a phone call from a provider. The technician was above board. He was upfront and he told me everything that was happening. He gave me great updates as far as the time and when he would be making it to the area and to the house.

I always call whenever I submit claims to AHS. But sometimes, the wait would take 15 minutes, but I usually get through. And then, I would get a number, find out who’s going to come, and then go from there. Recently, I called in for my hot water tank and the faucets in the bathtub. The technicians who came were fine and professional. They listened to what I had them here for and did everything to correct it. We’ve been an American Home Shield customer for quite a while and we’ve always been satisfied.

He ordered what he needed, came back and had the item replaced. It has been working fine since then. However, I had to pay extra for some part that he wanted to put on the hot water tank when in fact, I already paid the $75 I was supposed to pay. He said that some part wasn’t covered so I had to pay extra for that. Other than that, everything was good and everything works fine. I would recommend AHS.

My husband submitted a claim for our HVAC system online with American Home Shield, and the contractor that came out was pleasant. We were happy with him and we had no issues. The unit was working fine after he repaired it. However, we had the same issue come up after around 12 days and the contractor was supposed to come back out again. I was at home when it went out. When I walked to my house, the whole house smelled like it was on fire because it was smoking. This could be a fire hazard.
Our only issue with American Home Shield is the timeliness of the contractors getting out. We had the initial issue and it was right before our coldest month, and we had no heat for several days because it fell right on the weekend. They had around 64 business hours to get out here. Also, the technicians have a hard time. The system needs to be replaced, but they are instructed to put band-aids on the systems even if that may be a major repair. So if the tech that was supposed to come out tried to do that again, then we would not be happy about it. However, the technician never showed up. We had an appointment between 12:00 and 4:00 and my husband called to follow up to make sure they were coming and to make sure someone was gonna call.
I took off from work and was home from 12:00 until my husband got home from work at about 3:30. I looked at the status update at about 4:45 and it had a note that a technician stopped by at 4:30, but no one was home, which was not accurate because we were home. We tried to call the provider several times and my husband called American Home Shield last night and spoke to someone who was going to leave a message with the provider and to ask that they call us, but we’ve not heard from them at all.
My husband is an attorney and he wanted to be there when the techs came. He had to move around clients and had to push a court hearing up, so he can be at the house. It was the second time that it happened, so that affected his workload. I’m fine with there being a timeframe, but we called the contractor both times and asked for the courtesy if they could come out or at least call us 30 minutes before. I was at the house, so there was somebody there, but we never got a call the last time.
At this point, we are not pleased at all with the service. We paid $600 for a warranty and this is the same issue that we’ve been dealing with for a couple of weeks. What happened was the fan in the air conditioner was running even though the unit turned off, so it was overheating. If I have not come in, that could endanger not only our home but also our dog in the house, and that was upsetting as well. We’ve had the unit turned off at the breaker and we have absolutely no heat. It’s frustrating because if I could deal directly with the provider, then we could reach out to someone that has a good reputation and that has good ratings, and we could get it resolved.
We are at the mercy of the American Home Shield process, which really handcuffs us from being able to get the issue resolved and I feel bad. We had an issue last year with our water heater and, other than it took a while, the experience overall was fine. But with this particular air conditioner issue, the provider has been really unreliable as far as my experience. I don’t wanna reach out to someone directly even though we’re anxious to get it fixed because our house is freezing. I paid money, so I wanna use the warranty. However, we felt like we are at a loss of what we need to do to get the issue fixed.

As of mid-December 2018 it's been nearly 2 months since they can't repair our washer. The contractor dispatched by them doesn't communicate with us unless I call American Home Shield customer service and insist on contacting him. They call him, then, if it's a lucky day, he gives some info. I don't know who is lying, but 1st the "part was not in production anymore", then "oh, I didn't have time to call and order the part". Then it was "oh, the contractor was on hold with the part company for too long, he didn't have time anymore and had to hang up", then "oh, we called the contractor, but he was on the way to client and couldn't talk". Then the part arrive, got installed, and, by the contractor's words, exploded, therefore he promised to explain to the American HS that we need a new washer.
No communication after that from anyone for another week. When I called, the answer was, "Oh, he JUST called the part in. No, no new washer, the contractor said the washer is repairable." Another week passed - no communication. The customer service refused to provide the contact phone for the contractor and refused to dispatched a different one who can do it quicker. Now, I am with 2 toddlers, husband in cancer treatment, full time job and no washer. Have to PAY these scammers every month on the contract, PAY for the service call, and still PAY to take laundry to a laundromat risking to bring home an infection. I hate American Home Shield with all my guts.

I was told by the AHS representative that sinks were covered and a person would be sent out. Instead, AHS sent out plumbing company 2 to do the same assessment and charge us $75 dollars again. I messaged the company and was told the charge would be removed and sinks were not covered.
I never got a reimbursement from AHS. I'm still being charged twice for the same assessment and the repair isn't even fixed. When we called AHS about our dishwasher leak back a few months ago (October - it’s now December) they were great and assured us that all would be taken care of and that someone would contact us shortly. We did receive a call from the appliance company to come check it out. When they arrived they couldn’t figure out exactly what the problem was so they ordered some parts guessing what the problem might be. The guy was professional and tried everything he could think of before requesting that it be replaced.
Once AHS reached out to us for the replacement dishwasher, we chose one very similar and waited to hear about the delivery. Keep in mind we have gone now about 2.5 months with no dishwasher including Thanksgiving and now Christmas is coming up. They tell us they can deliver it January 6th - What??? It should NOT take over 3 months for us to have working dishwasher. My husband even offered to go pick up the dishwasher at their warehouse and we’ve received no response. Meanwhile, the appliance repair guy is ready to install a new dishwasher immediately... It shouldn’t be this difficult. On top of everything else, our floors are ruined but AHS doesn’t cover that so it’s been an overall very disappointing experience.

I want to start out by saying we've been with AHS for 10 years and had stellar experience although we haven't used them a lot thankfully because everything has been working in our house. The times we did use them, they were prompt to respond and get someone to our home immediately. I didn't wait more than 20 mins on the phone to talk to a representative.
We rented our home and used a property management company but still continued to have AHS for the warranty as they had been so excellent beforehand. We have had a couple issues now where we have had to contact AHS. We had our washer start acting up and after two contractors came out, they both agreed the washing machine needed to be replaced. After many hours on the phone (myself and the prop mgmt company), they denied the claim and said that I had to purchase a new washing machine. The property management called them constantly to find out the status on the claim and if the replacement had been approved and we kept on getting different answers.
After several hours wasted on the phone we still didn't get a yes or no answer from them. I have never had so many problems with AHS before. The only thing that has changed is that our property is now a rental and I'm wondering if they won't cover a lot of the items that is stated in the contract because of that. It's sad because we were so happy with the level of service they provided but waiting on the phone (which is the only way you can contact them) for hours on end and not getting the appropriate answers is now making us wonder if having this coverage is worth it. If they won't cover or replace anything, then it's a waste of $.

My heat wasn’t working, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online since it's easier and quicker that way. However, I had terrible interactions with the contractors that they sent out. Airtronics is one of them. They left a disastrous mess and didn’t fix the problem. The heat went out again one day later. We tried to get them back out but they couldn’t come out for another week. They came back out but we missed them because of my husband’s work schedule. We called them that night to try to reschedule and explain the situation and no one answered. They told us because of our warranty, they can't come out on a weekend. So, we had to wait through the weekend. I called them Monday and then they told me that they can't schedule because we were through warranty even if they had never fixed the problem.
They came back out, messed up a bunch of more stuff with the heating, and then the next they told us was that it was unserviceable and that there was no way to fix our heating, which is incorrect. They lied to us multiple times. They left us open everything to dust. So, we didn’t want this company to come back. We've been without heat for three weeks now. AHS had everything documented. I think AHS doesn't know that this is an ongoing problem with Airtronics because Airtronics has a 1-star review online for the company and everybody is talking about AHS in every single one of their reviews. So, AHS ought to get rid of them completely.
Nevertheless, a different company came out today. This is MJS and it sounded like they're doing a better job. Their tech knew what he was doing. He said that there needs to be a switch replaced and that was it. He's coming back on Monday. He needed to go order a part, and he told us if we had any problems that he would come out on a weekend if he needed to. It was a completely different experience.

When our dryer quit, American Home Shield's contractors came down here, checked it out, and one of the technicians said it wasn’t getting enough electricity. It’s only getting 110 and it should have been 220. They sent the electricians down in the switch box in the room and they changed that little thing, put a larger one in there, and it's been doing all right since then.
My experience in submitting the claim was good. The only thing I disagree with was when my stove went out, we had to go without any stove in the kitchen for four weeks. That was the only thing that I thought would be noted. The contractor had to order the thing then somebody came down, saw what was wrong with the thing, and they put in the order for the stove. It took two weeks before we got the order for the stove, and two weeks later before anybody came down and hooked it up. There are different people that came to hook it up than the ones that came to start with, to see what was wrong with the thing. It just took a long time.
I called out there and a lady answered the phone. I asked how would she feel if her stove went out, and she wasn't able to cook a thing for four weeks, and she said she'd feel just like I did. I asked her to speak to the supervisor, and she said he wasn't available. I never heard anything. One needs to speed up when somebody got a complaint, and something's completely out and it’ll take four weeks to get the thing started back up. When we first took the home warranty out, it didn’t seem years. When we call AHS, it used to be where somebody would come the next day. Now, we call them and sometimes they'd take two weeks before anybody comes to check out what's wrong.
Their contractors do a good job when they first come, but it always seems like they would come but never have what they needed. Even with the dryer, they took two weeks to get the part and to come back to put the thing on. I'm not dissatisfied with their work but with the length of time that it takes to get things done. Other than that, we've had American Home Shield for more than 20 years and I've it recommended several people.

The only thing I didn’t like was that one woman told me they wouldn’t take out the $100 for 48 hours, which was good because I had to go to the bank, but they took it out that day. Nonetheless, I like American Home Shield. I’ve had them before then I quit them but then I have them again now. The contractor they sent out was also good. He got the furnace fixed right away and it's been good since.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield for a water heater replacement and it was easy. It looks like the website's format has changed though. It used to give me a place where I can give an explanation, but I didn’t find that this time. But their response was good. It was better than in the past and that has a lot to do with my schedule and coordinating it with the people that came out. And the water heater's performance since the replacement has been good so far.

I needed a garage door fixed. AHS couldn’t find a repair company and authorized me to select one after two weeks of begging. (Important note: I live in a community of over a million people but AHS had no garage door repair providers.) I hired and paid in full a company to fix the problem. At the same time the contractor was there, we called AHS and received confirmation of reimbursement authorization code and work order number (The contract pays for approved service minus a $75.00 deductible). AHS took the $75.00 deductible from a credit card they had on file and after 7 weeks, will not reimburse the money paid for services or the double deductible fraud.
I’ve tried for hours to speak to a representative. Stayed on hold for 41 minutes. They hung up on me. I called them back and stayed on hold the second time that day for 1 hour and 41 minutes. Four hours in one day attempting to speak w customer service. It’s been a nightmare. I can prove with documentation every word of this. Please make educated decisions and research this terrible company. The bottom line is I have paid AHS $75.00 and the cost of the full repair.
Hello, Michael. Thank you for providing me with the invoice so that your reimbursement could be processed. Have a great day.

Kevin from All Pro Air solutions in Livingston Texas was sent to my home to check my thermostat 'cause it would click on and off and wouldn’t turn on when it was supposed to. He took 3 hrs and diagnosed it as 3 different problems but finally said it was fixed. Then said he wanted to look at my outside unit. He goes outside, comes back in to get me and I go outside with him and he states the coils on my AC are so dirty it blew up my hard start and now I have no cold air. I haven’t used my cold air in weeks and the hard start was not burned or melted. It looked like someone had busted and the coils weren’t dirty. Just one small section. He then tells me home warranty won’t pay for the hard start cause it’s a maintenance issue and if I give him $70 he will clean it then write it up so that the home warranty will pay for hard start and a new thermostat.
I tell him no, get him out of my house 'cause now I feel unsafe, turn around and call a reputable HVAC repair company in Lufkin Texas and they come out within 10 minutes of Kevin leaving. I show them the invoice he left me with all the supposed things wrong with my unit and they go and check it. Guy states hard start has nothing to do with my air. I still have cold air and that the hard start doesn't look like it exploded. It look like it was cut or ripped out. He also stated coils weren’t even dirty enough to cause this to happen. He tells me I need to have all Pro Air solutions come back out and fix it but I’m afraid of this company so I let the second HVAC company that I trust fix problem and it costs me $355.
Guy leaves me a detailed invoice in hopes that I can contact AHS, tell them what happened and maybe recoup some of my money. I called and spoke to Kimberly at AHS. Told them all of the above Info and told her I had an invoice from the crook stating all these lies and from an unbiased third party reputable HVAC repairer and she did nothing. She said they’d have to send the same crooks out to my house to check my unit and see if I was telling the truth and she would barely even listen to me. Who are these people sending to our homes and then they don’t care what happens. They get the cheapest, seediest people to come in our homes. But the guy wasn’t only trying to cheat me but them as well. I don’t know if she didn't want the bad report or what but she wouldn’t even listen to anything I said. Beware of AHS. They have no care for the customers except to get our money. And the guy didn’t even fix my thermostat!!!

My husband and I initially purchased our policy 10 years ago, believe we had a lapse due to our credit card expiration. Live in Texas and have had air issues since 2008. Every year we call, sometimes multiple times per year and the air gets fixed maybe the 2nd or 3rd time a technician come out. More recently, this summer our air was not working from June 18-Aug 30. We had no AIR in Texas this summer. Last technician, the 4th one, replaced the condenser (even though the first technician replaced the condenser in June 2018). Now our heat is not working.
Same technician who replaced our condenser in Aug 2018 came out this week and said our unit needs to be replaced. Just received a call from AHS stating we must pay $700 for parts because of wear/tear and get our unit up to code (house built 2004). Looks like they will not replace our unit. Customer of 10 years and have had approximately 20+ air technicians to come out since 2008 for AIR issues. We've paid over $7,000 in monthly fees, parts, Freon, and service calls but AHS refuses to buy us a new unit. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Read the fine print! I have been paying American Home Shield for over 16 months now, and have never had to make a claim. When it unfortunately came time to do so, I was told that the washer and dryer that were in my home when I purchased the home (that were only 2 years old) were not going to be cover due to the fact that the stacking units "stacking kit" was improperly done originally. So after paying over $1,000.00 I was told a $50 part was not going to be covered and there was nothing they could do.
The dryer sits atop the washer, and has been rocking when in use, so much so that the dryer rocks forward and has even crushed the top of the washing unit. But, due to the fact that the washer is being crushed due to the stacking kit issue, that is not covered! I guess I should have gone back to school to become an appliance repair specialist prior to purchasing my home, I would have then known that this stacking kit deal was improper, and could have replaced it myself in the beginning and that would have been easier than dealing with the folks at American Home Shield.
Due to the crushing, the dryer walks forward and almost falls off after every other use. With a one year old kiddo running around the house, this is obviously an immediate concern. After three different contractors coming out (the first two contractors didn't work on my brand of washer/dryer even though when scheduling the service appointment they asked for make and model number and serial numbers which I happily provided), the third finally did service our brand (Samsung). I was told that this would not be covered because the part isn't covered. So much for a home warranty!!! I have now cancelled service with these terrible people, and moved to a company that will actually cover my concerns!
Side note: when signing up if you do chose to move forward with American Home Shield, be sure to ask about levels of contracts they offer! Apparently there are levels of contracts you can have that will cover ALL parts of appliances, and not just certain parts that they pick and choose. When I signed up, I was told the only difference in contracts they offer is how you pay - but the claims department feels much differently about that. Long story short, I am left with paying this company $1,000.00, plus a $135.00 service fee (that the contractor told me would only be $50.00 had I called him separately from my Home Warranty with American Home Shield) all to learn that I need a $50.00 part!! Save yourself the grief and go with another home warranty company - there are plenty out there!
Hello, Rodney. I apologize for the denial that you received for the repairs that are needed. A member of our Social Media team will be in contact with you to discuss your concerns regarding the coverage.

This is my first time being a homeowner and I got American Home Shield's service knowing very little about these types of things. They sent someone because the air conditioning stopped working, and the company they sent fixed it. Apparently, it broke again and I called the company back. They went back and said that they fixed it, but the problem was gonna continue as it was a plumbing problem. So, I went back to AHS and asked them to send a plumber.
They sent a plumber that went to my house a week later instead of 24 hours like they promised, and this plumber came to my house without being briefed. I was expecting for Home Shield or the air conditioning person to do some type of report to be given to the plumbing company, but the plumber came to my house on Wednesday knowing nothing of the problem and not understanding what he was doing there. He said that there was nothing broken or damaged in terms of plumbing and that everything was working perfectly.
I went back to Home Shield, and they said that they wanted to send a second plumbing company to have a second opinion. The second plumbing company asked me to be home yesterday. I rely on my work so if I don’t work, I don’t make money and I don’t pay my bills. Yesterday I had to be home in the morning during the time range that they gave. The company called me at 9:00 AM telling me that they were not gonna be able to make it. So, I asked for time off on my job for no reason because these people didn’t show up. They say that they could come in the afternoon, but I cannot be away from my job the whole day. If I asked for the morning, I have to catch up in the afternoon. If they said that they couldn't come in the morning and then I have to be there in the afternoon, it doesn’t look good for me in terms of my work.
I got upset with this situation. I explained to AHS that this company was so unprofessional and unreliable to be taking care of the plumbing problem. They sent somebody else today who seems like a very serious company, and the guy took the time to explain to me even though I know very little. Now it seems that the problem is not plumbing, it's air conditioning. Between one company and another, nobody seems to get with the problem. The air conditioning blamed it on plumbing, while the plumbing explained to me that it has nothing to do with plumbing.
In the meantime, AHS refers me to companies that are not professional, not serious and don’t show up on time, and it's causing me a lot of inconvenience. This is the second time that I have to use this service and my experience has not been very good. I pay every month and when I have a problem, I don’t get a solution. Also, the waiting time on the phone is very long. They ask for you to leave a number so they can call you back, but when they call you back, they also put you on hold. So, if you are first on the queue and they call you back, you expect for them to be ready for you, not to have you again for another 10 or 8 minutes waiting for somebody to take the call. You expect for them to call you back when they are ready and that’s not the case. I'm very dissatisfied.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

The dude from First Choice Appliance and Repair that came to my house that worked on my microwave needs to be out of American Home Shield's program. I haven't had my microwave since August and he was due to come in and fix it. The keyboard wasn’t working and there was some stuff going on with the power. He came in, he took the parts, ran off with them for a month, then he came back. When he fixed it, he didn’t quite fix it. So, now it’s working, but it only does one speed and the light doesn’t come on. It doesn’t rotate anymore. He told my wife it was fixed and he didn't say he was coming back.
Every holiday, I don't have my microwave. He was telling my wife one thing and telling me another. And every time we called them, we would call them on three-way and they act like, “We don’t know what you’re talking about.” They don’t understand you or they don’t know what’s going on. Also, he was a little weird. He was kind of just looking and wasn’t giving too much feedback. Then, he said he had to get the part and he would be back. And then they kept telling me the part was either back ordered or he didn’t order it. He got one lady that answered the phone who I think is probably a family member or something. They have a terrible customer service and terrible interaction. They really don’t need to be in a program like American Home Shield.
The last time, it took him a month to come back. I figured that’s what he was. Also, I found out he closed the case. I'm trying to complain and get in touch with American Home Shield but I couldn't. I had been calling in during the day and the phone would just be ringing and then they would tell me, "Go online." I called a couple of times.
American Home Shield needs to have more people answering the phone. There’s no way they're that busy all the time every day. They want everybody to wanna use the app or automated. But they need to switch that out and make it a little more personable. I need to call them right now and get my icemaker fixed now. I can't get them on the phone and I was gonna tell them about that. But I tried to just to do it through the app. Other than that, AHS is pretty good. I put my claim in through the little app or the site and they would call. Then, somebody would show up. I've had no complaints. They're pretty good about getting somebody out within the 48-hour or 72-hour window.

AHS got somebody to come out not too long and he was able to fix it. He explained that it was due to the age of the appliance.
Also, on my other claim, the guy who came was completely professional and super punctual. Both times that he met with me, he was exactly at the time he said he would be. When he said he'd see me at 12, at 11:55, I saw him parked out in front of my house and at 12, he rang the doorbell. He was very knowledgeable and did a nice work. There were some issues where the codes have changed since 2002 in certain ways. The equipment had to be secured and he took care of the issues for me. For my most recent claim with American Home Shield, trying to get a hold of a contractor that could get out to the property in a timely manner was a problem. AHS was not intuitive enough to be able to handle every issue immediately. I’ve called before on different occasions and tried to get some help or at least some information on it. And they said they had to send it off to their dispatch because they had no one available. I understand companies are busy and people are busy but I’ve had to wait days sometimes to get a dispatch person to call me back.
I have mostly submitted claims online because it’s simpler to do it online. But the time that I’ve had to call in to try to fill in for the information, I normally have to get them a blood sample, a fingerprint scan, and make sure they understand that I’m the property manager trying to handle this claim. But the contractors have been courteous for the most part. They contact my tenants and they go ahead and go from there. The work gets done. One time, I had an AC issue and the contractor went out there. He looked at it and he said he had to order parts. It took him anywhere from five to seven days to order the parts and these tenants were out without AC in one of the hottest months we’ve had so far. They were cooking like bacon on a fryer. It’s like you would think certain days could be simpler, but I guess not.
The contractors are either too busy or they just don’t care because they’re getting so much work in that they can just slack it off and be like, “Hey, we’re waiting and there’s nothing we can do.” Which I understand because you can’t water out of thin air without having actually anything else to make it with. But it’s a situation that you just gotta take a cup of tea with. Other than that, for the price, AHS is not bad. I just renewed one of my contracts with them because they gave me a great deal to renew. It's $100 cheaper than anywhere else. As a company, they are recommendable, but always call at night. Just be patient because they have no control over their vendors and contractors that they work with because they have their own schedule and things.

Working with the contractor was extremely beneficial. He was a really good guy and was able to fix it and is now working great. In addition, he showed me a couple things about what I could do if I was ever in trouble and changing it myself.
Having warranty for some of the little stuff when it costs me $75 each time, is not really a good deal because, for some things, it costs less than that if I just paid somebody to come and do it. But I didn't get the warranty for that, I have it just in case anything big ever happens, like if ever we have problems with the water heater or the air conditioner and for that, it’s worth its weight in gold. American Home Shield’s service is good. They have a good network of contractors for the various things that they need to support. I submitted a request for service last week for a water heater leak. I was contacted within 24 hours by a plumber assigned by American Home Shield. The plumber said they would send someone maybe Friday, but for sure by Monday before 3 pm. Monday at 1, the plumber showed up at my home. Immediately greeted me with a profanity laced sentence regarding how long it took to get to my home. The plumber then carried his profane speech into my home where he observed the leaking water heater; continuing about how "** difficult this will be" and how the previous installer "** it all up." The plumber took several photos, said I was "**, but he would hook me up."
I called American Home Shield to tell of my terrible experience and was asked to leave a message for them to call back. I never received a call. I emailed AHS and the plumber to ask what the follow up timeline was to be as the plumber was not very forthcoming with a timeline. I did not hear back. I called the next day, now 6 days after my water heater leaking and had to leave another message for AHS to call back and I also left a message for the plumber. I received a call back from AHS about 49 minutes later, the woman said she would call the plumber and let me know, but her records showed they had ordered a new water heater.
3 hours later, I received a call that the water heater was not covered under the 3x3 warranty that specifically covered it because "the plumber said it had been leaking for days." When I asked how he could tell, the woman said "he sent photos." I said it was ridiculous, I had a warranty on the water heater and it was in force. The woman said I could ask for a 2nd opinion, but most likely the next plumber would say the same thing. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she referred me to the contract stating the plumber was the expert and my only solution was to hire a 2nd opinion plumber of AHS choosing, the customer service rep for AHS then disconnected me.

After I wrote the original report here the company contacted me and the issue was resolved. It took a total of 5 secheduled visits, including 2 no-shows, one diagnosis visit without follow up, one diagnosis visit with follow up, and one actual fix visit. I had to be on site several hours each time, plus spend some hours in total waiting on hold on the phone. Quite stressful and time consuming.
On the plus side, the washer was eventually fixed and what would have probably cost approx. $700-900 was done for a $75 service charge (plus $500 warranty). Also, a fridge was fixed without incident earlier this year on the same annual warranty. So overall financially it worked out.
If it was not for the extreme hassle getting the washer fixed I would have given the service a high rating. I've adjusted it to middling to factor in the easy fridge fix and the eventual but stressful washer fix.

I have been trying for a month or more to get our washer fixed via AHS. They scheduled Sears to come fix it. Sears never showed. One week wasted. They scheduled Sears again. Sears never showed. Another 10 days wasted. They scheduled a local firm to come. The guy came, said he needed parts and another person to help him, said someone would be in touch. That was 1 week ago.
Called AHS - waited 45 minutes on hold, had to hang up when battery died. Charged the phone, called the firm that had come out last week, they claimed they had no record of ever inspecting the device, and no idea what to do next. Called again, requested call back, got a callback, waited 15 minutes on hold, phone was answered, silence... No one on the line. Waited 5-10 minutes. Nothing. Called again... endless wait... no option to be called back offered. Battery died while waiting. Charged battery, called again, endless wait again, no offer to be called back, no estimate of wait time provided. AHS service is absolutely appalling.
Hi, Gordon. Thank you for advising that the issue was resolved.

We have AHS for 20 years. Not once has the repair/experience been smooth and hassle-free. This time is no different. I had a technician out the day after Thanksgiving for a broken dishwasher. (Technician took almost a week to get here). Said AHS would need to order the part and we would be contacted. Tried and tried to call technician and rang busy nonstop.
Finally after two calls to AHS (wait time to reach them over 20 mins) I got someone to call the tech to check status update, only to tell me the part was delivered the same day it was ordered, which is obviously impossible! Still not resolved and even when it is I would not rate them a "0" stars! With over 11K invested in this warranty it is hard to let it go, however I have NOT come close to getting my money's worth, and the service call amounts continue to increase year after year. We have given up and called outside help many times, especially when AC isn't working and they cannot come help for over a week. Do yourself a favor. Put the $60 month in a savings account, and you will have more than enough to take care of repairs around your home yourself.

I called AHS to get help with water in my basement and told them that it was not coming from any of the water pipes. Yet, they sent a plumber who failed to identify the root cause and did not even check the sump pump. I'd to hire another contractor who identify a failed sump pump. I called AHS again and they wanted another service fee for the same issue. I agreed to pay that but when another plumber showed up he told me that AHS would not cover the pump because the furnace water is also coming into the pit. He wanted exorbitant amount to change the pump which I refused to pay.
No one from AHS ever contacted me on both occasions to give me an update on my service request. I called them again and they told me the same story about the clause which does not cover the sump pump replacement. I asked them to cancel my contract and agent told me that it won't be canceled until retainer department calls. After waiting 15 days I called them to find out the status of cancellation and found that contract was cancelled the same day when I called. They are worst because of sneaky practices, worst communication and no value for your money.

Too bad I can't rate it as a zero. When you taking this insurance they will promise you great service, but when you need them you get in trouble. Had a problem with my stove. Call American Home Shield. Was waiting for the technician to come for about 2 weeks. The guy came look at my stove said, "Sorry I couldn't fix it," and left. Call them again. In about a week another guy came, knock in my door and said; "I am a technician guy but my partner got sick. There is nothing I can do, I just came to say that, bye." I just went to the store and bought another stove. But you still need to pay 75$ service fee (for what). Think twice before you'll take that insurance.
Hello, Alina. I apologize that you have had some delays with your service and had to pay the service fee regardless of those delays. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to assist you with this situation.

AHS recommended a contractor who has terrible reviews online. They lived up to expectation. When I called AHS, they hung up on me numerous times during the course of 2 hours. Terrible service and their choices of contractors even worse. Don't waste your money.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

My gas and water was busted and the contractors AHS sent changed the valves for me. I'm pleased with them. Both of them were very intelligent.

I had an issue with my garbage disposal and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The contractor called me and I explained what was going on with my garbage disposal. He asked me to look up the model number and he confirmed that indeed if he had to replace it, it was something that he will have to order or he will have to check the garbage disposal first. So, he came out to the house two or three days later and he said it was a piece. And if he could fix the piece, then he would fix it, but if he couldn't, then he will have to replace the entire garbage disposal. He had to replace the whole garbage disposal and he was able to get that from a local store and he fixed the problem. It was done on the same day and everything has been working well since. I've had no issues but I wish AHS would stop going up on my monthly cost. They come up every year and that's no fun.
Hi, Ashley. Thank you for letting us know how well your service experience was. We appreciate your positive feedback.

My experience with American Home Shield has been excellent. I've had them send out people for everything - from my dishwasher, to my garage fridge and to my actual fridge in the home. I submit my claims to them over the phone, which is easier for me because my internet is shoddy. I've had mostly good dealings with their reps whenever I've called. And then their contractor that comes out is always polite and gets the job done. He also lets me know what he’s doing and what might happen. We have really great communication. And whenever AHS say that they would get whatever other company out, I would ask if I could use Suffolk again. I’ve been requesting most of the work to be done by them if they can. Overall, I am very satisfied with the work that has been done.

One of my water heaters went bad and I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for someone to come and fix it. Their website was very good and once I submitted the claim, I got an email saying that a certain company would contact me. Then I got a call from that company and they scheduled an appointment the next day in the morning. The contractor who came was very friendly. He was right on spot, fixed the water heater and left. It was an awesome job and the heater has been working well since. I had a very good experience.
Good morning Suryakant,
