American Home Shield takes care of everything in a timely manner. They are very professional and they answer questions. I made a claim by phone for the spring of the garage door, and the contractor that came was very knowledgeable. It was inconvenient because I don’t like parking my car outside, but I’m blessed that my car wasn’t on the inside because had my car been on the inside, I would have been stuck for three days. I'm highly satisfied.
Good afternoon Juanita,
Your positive feedback is greatly appreciated regarding your experience to have the garage door repaired. It is our goal to provide you with the best customer service experience, and team of contractors to complete the repairs.

You cannot get through the customer service line if you call after 7:00 AM PT. Hold time is good 1 hour. I've been chasing a reimbursement for $496.82 for a microwave replacement I purchased since the repair is more than the new microwave for a claim on 3/31/18. I refiled my claim on June 2018 and still has not received the check. The departments I dealt with (Customer Service, Cash and Lieu, A/P) are saying I have to call the other that they're not able to assist me. I spoke with Solomon, Kathryn, Grace Sherri/Cherry and Drew and all don't know what's going on. I'm a realtor and I'm not confident on referring them to my clients.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I've been very satisfied with American Home Shield. They respond quickly and their contractors contact me within 24 hours or less. Once, I went online and submitted a claim for a leak that was in the ceiling of my basement and I got service right away. I was also happy with the repair company that came. They were professional, knowledgeable, courteous, clean and all their work was satisfactory and done to my liking.
I'm happy that we were able to resolve your leak issue Roy. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a great weekend!

Our refrigerator had an electrical issue and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The contractor came out and he thought that maybe one part needed to be replaced and we discovered that the whole refrigerator needed to be replaced. So, American Home Shield contacted us and we got a brand-new refrigerator. It was less than a month and the refrigerator is working perfectly. I’ve had no problems with American Home Shield. We’ve had several different appliances replaced by them and they’ve always been on time in getting things done. I would definitely recommend them.
Hi, Julie. Sounds like your service request worked out exactly how it should have. Thank you for letting us know about your experience.

I filed an online claim with American Home Shield when the compressor on my refrigerator went out, and they sent me a text telling me that the contractor would be contacting me. I then got a call and an appointment was set up. The guy who came out was great. He was down to business, checked things out and told me that the unit would need to have a compressor. He then called somebody. I was waiting for him to get back with me but then Sears called me and set up an appointment to get the unit fixed. I've called American Home Shield thrice now and I've been very pleased with everything that has been done. I recommend them to everybody.
Good morning Kay,
It is always a pleasure to read great feedback about our customers experiences. I am glad that one of our contractors completed the repairs within a timely manner, and provided you with a great service experience.

We had a plumbing issue and I usually file claims online but this time, I called American Home Shield to make sure it was covered. They placed the order and then the service guy came, solved the problem in a matter of an hour and everything went well. Our interactions were excellent and the problem was fixed the same day I called. We've had American Home Shield for over 10 years and we're very satisfied with their service.
Hello, Sherry. I am so pleased to know that your service requests are being handled properly. Thank you for your positive feedback.

American Home Shield has been great. We’ve had up to three policies with them and we have two now. We’ve also made a few claims through the years. I’m waiting on someone to call me back about a repair service that can help me with our water heater. The water heater is tank-less, and the people that AHS recommended has notified that they cannot get to the repair, so they are asking AHS to send another company out. Our most recent completed claim was for the icemaker at our house, and it wasn’t many hours until we heard back from AHS saying they scheduled someone. The contractor was fantastic and we would definitely use them again. I recommend AHS all the time.

I had broken springs in the dishwasher door and I called American Home Shield. I told them what the problem was and within that same day, I received a message telling me who would be contacting me about repairing it and that there would be a $100 service fee. The repairman contacted me and wanted to know when would be a good time to come. He was there the next morning and he was on time. He was very professional, polite and nice. My general expected experience with appliance repair people is that they charge you 65 to $100 to come out and then, they say what’s wrong with it. They go to the appliance parts house, get the parts, come back, fix it and they charge you some more. However, this technician had what he needed on his vehicle and 45 minutes later, he was gone.
I even had the model number and everything for the dishwasher if they needed it but he knew about how old it was. He got right on it and I'm very pleased. The dishwasher door doesn’t beat you in the legs when you try to open it now so, it was very satisfactory and everything worked fine. Our son-in-law and daughter in Houston, Texas recommended American Home Shield. They said they had very good experience with it over the years and so, we figured we would try it and so far, so good.
Good morning Hoyt,
I enjoyed reading your feedback about your experience to have the dishwasher repaired. I hope you and your family continue to enjoy your home warranty with AHS!

I was having a problem with an ice maker. The water coming out of the water spout of the refrigerator tasted funny so I contacted AHS to send a repair person out. It was easy to submit the claim. I just logged on, submitted what the problem was, and what appliance it was. Then, I had an email back saying who was coming out. It took about three days for the contractor to come out. However, the contractors didn’t call and I always ended up having to go look up the contractor name and call them to make the appointment. My son has AHS too and we both have the same kind of issue.
Other than that, the contractors that came were polite and well-mannered. They were also on point with the issue and they usually have everything to fix it. The work that has been done was top-notch. I had AHS about 10 years ago, sold our house, just sold another house, and moved back to them. I’ve also advised my son to use the same and we bought it for him as his housewarming gift. I found online that there are a lot of companies that are using Google to manipulate the readers. But I know the tricks because I’m a writer. Most of the companies who try to put American Home Shield down are trying to promote their own and are paid services to do so.
Good morning Susan,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I hope you continue to have a good experience and enjoy your warranty with AHS!

We've had nothing but positive experiences with American Home Shield. My wife called them since there was a leak in her downstairs toilet, and they sent someone out to fix it. We usually file the claims over the phone because we've never been able to actually get logged in to the online system. We've tried, but we've had some issues with it, so we've always just done it over the phone.
Our interactions with the representatives have always been excellent. There wasn't any time that it was very difficult to get a hold of anybody, file the claim, get called back, and keep notified of exactly what's going on. Everybody was very nice and sympathetic to any problem that we were having. They just gotta keep that up. Also, the technicians always seem to do good work. We've only had one time that we've ever had to actually call them out a second time, and that was because something immediately happened right after that as well. But they've always been very cordial and very professional. I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I previously had somebody come and fix my garbage disposal, and the techs sent by American Home Shield showed me a few ways to fix it myself. I had a plumbing claim recently and I tried all the things that they had taught me the first time, but the person who came out tried a couple of different things and said it needed to be replaced. He was very nice to work with me and my schedule. The window he said he could come was 8:00 to noon, and he didn’t end up being able to come ‘til 10:30. I had to be at work at noon and I had to drive 30 minutes, and he said, "No problem. I can come back Monday," because he didn't have the parts he needed.
He came back the Monday after and did the repair, and now the plumbing works fine and is even quieter. I've also had a couple of claims on my dryer, and one thing was fixed but 60 days later, another part was replaced. That took a long time to get resolved, but otherwise, I've been happy with everything. I make claims online on the AHS portal where you click which service you need, and it's pretty easy.

Things went fine with American Home Shield and everything's working now since the most recent repair. My only concern is that two of my coworkers have American Home Shield also, and they only pay $75 for a service fee when I paid $130-something, and that's a huge difference. I pay AHS monthly just like my coworkers do. It's probably what I signed up for online but I didn't know any different. Hopefully, I wouldn't have to use the service fee very often. But other than that, everything was fine.

We hired a furnace company that came to tune up our two furnaces. They saw a problem with carbon monoxide leakage and one of the burners was running hot. We then contacted American Home Shield with that information who then contacted a local company. This company came in and told me that there was indeed an issue. They then contacted another one that was supposed to come and report the actual issue.
Then I contacted Consumer Energy who came out and said that there was an issue with the burner that was running. When that wasn't running, it was down and that one, they could investigate. We then went back to American Home Shield and it took a while with different contractors. Finally, we got a furnace here where the heat exchanger was replaced and the one that Consumer Energy said was leaking gas was left alone because a certified company came in and said that that one was okay. It took a while to get all these contractors sorted out among themselves. By the time we placed the initial claim, it took almost a month to get it resolved. One contractor they used came in twice but everything is working okay now.

We had a lot of claims with American Home Shield this year. Our washing machine went bad, and so did the compressor in our air conditioner. I went online and submitted the claims, the contractors told us when they'd be here and they showed up. Everything was really smooth. For the washing machine, the appliance guy came out, looked at it and said, “Your computer controller is burned up, and it costs about $1,000 a piece. They’ll probably wanna replace your washing machine.” So, he told American Home Shield that. They emailed us a selection of washing machines, we picked one out and got it.
Although, we had a real bad run with American Home Shield for a while. They didn't have any air conditioner people years ago, and we went over 30 days without air conditioning. We’ve also had a couple of shoddy air conditioner people. The last air conditioner people were very nice, but before that, Harbor Point Mechanical was difficult and not very thorough. But it seems like AHS is doing better.

We scheduled an HVAC preventative maintenance with American Home Shield. They emailed me about a deal where it was $75 to have the technician come out and do a maintenance service, and if they had found any issue, that $75 would be credited towards the fix, and I scheduled that one. After I put in the request, the contractor called to schedule a time and the day. They texted with an ETA before they were coming, and they arrived on time. They did the maintenance and took about half an hour to do the job which involved the cleaning and check-up of the HVAC. Overall, the experience with AHS was convenient and easy.

Water was dripping from the back of the refrigerator, down into the bottom drawer and it was collecting there. It would freeze and make about a four inch layer of ice and when the ice got too much, water would drip out. So, something was wrong with the way the water went to the ice maker up to the dispenser. I filed a claim for that with American Home Shield and the people I talked to on the phone were very courteous and helpful and easy to talk to. It was the 4th time that we had the refrigerator repaired and the tech said that the issue was in the design of the machine. The tube, after a number of years, closes and the water doesn’t go the way it’s supposed to go. He said that it was not repairable and they would have to replace it. We did not find one that we liked on their list, so we went to Home Depot and found one within the price that they allowed.
Our experience was amazing. It’s hard to get AHS on the phone though and I have to wait a long time. Usually, I pick the 1 button and they call me back. I wish that was better. But all in all, I’m very satisfied with AHS. Having a warranty has been very valuable to us. We had our stove and kitchen faucet repaired and our refrigerator replaced.

My water heater stopped working on a Friday which prompted a call to AHS. The representative sent a contractor to our home the following day which advised we needed a new water heater. He stated he had to get an approval from AHS. This company called us Tuesday stating the approval was received and they had to pick the water heater up from a warehouse and the earliest they could come to our home was Thursday. The Water heater installed, contractor advised to wait 45 minutes for the water to get hot. Needless to say the water NEVER got hot. We called the contractor which said he couldn't come back until the next day.
The contractor arrived later the next day and he said the water heater is defective and we had to contact AHS. Called AHS which advised we had to contact the actual company of the water heater. And take up the issue of the defective water heater with Bradford White and it's no longer in their hands. It's day 10 and still NO hot water!! How is it the consumers problem of receiving a defective water heater to now have to contact the brand of the water heater to attempt to try to get this problem resolved??? AHS paid... The contractor paid... The consumer SCREWED!

Our heater wasn’t coming on and I filed the claim to American Home Shield online. I had a tech come out and he said it was one thing. I’m from a technical background and I didn’t take what the tech had said as being what was really going on with it but I humor him. The contractor arranged to have the work done about a week later which was fine because the temperature wasn’t that extreme that requires my heater to be working all the time.
The second tech came and said that it would cost $500 to fix. He would have to open the system up and replace the Freon. I said it would be fine. I went ahead and paid him the $500, and he started work. I asked him to run his own diagnostics on it first, and he did. It turned out that the system didn’t need to be opened up and the part didn’t need to be replaced, that needed to be replaced. I was glad that he took the time to objectively look at the system to ensure that what was being done was the correct thing and saved the $500 that I would have had to pay. As far as American Home Shield is concerned, they did everything that they needed to do.
I’ve called AHS out for an appliance repair and I was fine with the technician they sent out. Of course, it's basically a subcontractor of theirs that didn’t seem to really be able to offer solutions for what was going on with it. As far as their functionality and their transparency, everything I can tell from American Home Shield is exactly what they advertised. And I haven’t had any kind of hidden or unexpected charges associated with their service, or what they say online or in the commercials.

My gas furnace wasn’t heating up as it should and I went online with American Home Shield and I did all the necessary things there. Then somebody called me that same day, about two hours later and they took all the information down and said that somebody would be getting in touch with me within 24 hours. That same evening, the contractor called and we set up our appointment for the following day. Then the service guy said that he was gonna come out between 3:00 and 6:00 but he actually came out earlier than 3:00. He was courteous and timely. It was cold when I called AHS because the furnace wasn’t working and when they said that it was 24 hours for them to contact me, that freaked me out a little because it was cold. Instead, the contractor got out here sooner than scheduled.
I told him what was going on with the furnace and he diagnosed it. He had the part with him, so he didn’t have to go back out to the truck and he fixed it right there. He was saying that this wasn’t at full capacity and it wouldn’t kick on. It had a safety mechanism on the furnace that will shut down after three tries trying to come on. It will shut down for three hours, then it would try to reboot or regenerate itself again, and if it didn’t, then it would shut down for another three hours. It was a safety mechanism to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning and a fire and he explained it to me. I was aggravated that it wasn’t working right but it was also a safety mechanism for me and my family. All in all, AHS is good to have and I would recommend them.

The heat was out upstairs, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. I received an email with an offer for a preventative check-up for the heating system. It was worded a little confusingly because it said any additional problems found in the system would be $75 to fix. So, when the contractor came, they did the check-up but it was an extra work order to look at the upstairs heat which I didn’t know.
Technically, the system is that you would reschedule the next visit, but if I have known this in the first place, I would’ve just called for a work order. But the guys that came were really nice and ended up doing it right when they were making it work. Everything was resolved. American Home Shield was great. I appreciate them going above and beyond on taking care of the work order. I bought the house over a year and a half ago, and it came with buyer's insurance for six months with American Home Shield. When that expired, I renewed for a year. We’ve had great companies come out as well as guys who were communicative, resourceful and who helped. The other claims experiences were wonderful and we were very happy. This is our first bad experience. The heater was getting hot and I could feel the fire come on. The thermostat was set to 80 and it was saying 55. Then, it shut off a minute later. The house wasn’t getting hot at all. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and navigating through the website was fine. However, it took AHS a week to get the contractors out.
When the contractors came out, they looked at the heater and told me that the gas valve needed to be up to code. We paid $155 for that. They replaced the gas valve and all the wiring but it didn’t fix the heater. They were going to come back and put a control panel out. I also kept smelling gas in the house and I realized they left the gas valve on, which I turned off myself. They came back again and put a control panel in. After being there for five hours, they told me that the control panel and the gas valve were not communicating with each other. They think that they were just gonna get a new unit. They left and I started smelling gas in my house again. They left the gas valve on again.
The week after that we heard from the company. They were trying to make an appointment to come out again. They said that they didn't say that they were gonna do a new unit. They said that they were gonna try a different control panel. They were supposed to come out Wednesday in between 10:00 and 2:00. They texted me at 10:30 that there was a family emergency and couldn't come out. They asked if they could come out the next day. I told them that it was unacceptable. I've had no heat for four weeks and we were supposed to have a winter weather storm this weekend. I have no heat in my house, with a kid and four dogs.
The girl told me on the phone that she would try to see if another tech will go pick up the part off from the guy's truck and they would try to make it that day or come the next day, which was yesterday. They should call me and let me know. That was at 11 o'clock in the morning. At 5 o'clock at night, nobody had called me. Their office closes at 5:00, so I called the next day. Because of a miscommunication, she changed my service from 8:00 to 12:00. When they didn't come by 12:00, I called and I was told that they changed my time to 3:00 to 7:00. I hurried home from my job and at 7:30 the tech calls me and told me they'd be there at 10:30. I have a camera thing on my doors that activate whenever they do anything. They came at 11:15 and I was asleep. They rang the doorbell, stood there for 30 seconds and then they left. They didn't try to call the house or call me.
I called 15 minutes later and asked where they were. They said they came by and nobody answered the door. They said that they were just a couple of minutes away and could come back. They took 45 minutes to come back to my house. It was midnight and all they did was take out the control panel they put on there and left. They didn't put a new control panel in and didn’t do anything they said they were going to do. Plus, they put on the receipt they gave me last night that they noticed there was a crack in my heat furnace. They said nothing nor did they look at it.
Thank you for sending me the invoices for reimbursement.

When I had to have the techs come out again, I went to the AHS website which was very streamlined. When you submit a claim, you would get a text message notifying that a claim was submitted. Then, the tech calls you. If you schedule an appointment, they automatically text you and tell you when the appointment is gonna be.
The furnace stopped and on the day they arrived, it started working again. They couldn't really do much. Then it stopped working again and they came out a second time. It started working then it went out the third time. This time, they figured out what the problem was and they're coming out on Saturday for the fourth time. I have two houses that are covered with American Home Shield. One is not my main residence, which is in Phoenix and being that there are renters there, it gets the most activity. My recent claim was for a leaky faucet. The company that went out did a good job and got the faucet fixed. They also noticed a few other issues and made some recommendations. Typically, when I have a claim, I phone them in. I've never had an issue getting a claim set up. However, I've had several bad experiences with the contractors. It's Arizona and it's always in a 110-degree heat when the AC goes out. So, it's a critical situation for everybody. The response time has not been good, but I get that everybody's busy that time of year.
Last year, they sent out whoever they chose and they seemed to try to put a Band-aid on something instead of addressing the issue, which led to longer delays in getting it repaired. They sent out multiple contractors. Their analysis for the situation was that it need to be replaced, and then they'd send somebody else out who would say, "Oh, there's no problem." So, there was all this back and forth. And the final resolution was just one contractor actually going out there and going above and beyond what he was supposed to do. AHS did not pay that company, and I sent them some money on the side because I appreciated their extra effort to get the problem resolved. But the companies that AHS was sending out weren't being thorough and weren't doing their job to begin with, which led to about two weeks worth of delays of where the AC was finally fixed.
Even with my AC unit here at my house, every year they come out and they're fine with putting and adding Freon to it, but they never check where it's leaking out. If you gotta keep adding something to a system, it's obvious that there's a leak somewhere. They don't wanna look for it because that would be a more costly repair.

The heater on my AC unit was constantly running and this has been going on for a week. It wouldn’t shut off without having to cut all the power off to the unit itself. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and they had an appointment set up for the very next day. It was the quickest turnaround I’ve ever had with them. Usually, the waiting takes three days. The contractor was able to diagnose the problem right away. There was a switch inside the fan blower that shorted and he had a spare part in the van. The heater is working excellently since then.

AHS sent a contractor to come out for our heat and it was working fine. Then about four days later, it stopped working again, so we put in another call to have the contractor come out. Thankfully, we were not obligated to pay another copay since it was already a recurring situation and we appreciated that. We normally submit our claims online and typically, they respond within 30 minutes. The most I've had to wait for someone to come out have been about a couple of days from discussing and that's been pretty good.
Also, the contractors AHS have sent have all been professionals. The first time we called AHS, we had a plumbing issue. The first guy that came wasn't able to resolve it so I called again to see if someone else could come out. The second guy that came had something that cleared the problem within five minutes and everything had been fine since. I've been telling people that they should go ahead and get AHS because it seems to be a pretty good service.

I've been with American Home Shield for a good while and I've always been satisfied with the service. This time, I called them to have the box on the fluorescent light that can go out checked. They know the good companies for service. Then they called me and we set up an appointment, and it was the next day or two that the contractor came. He was a pleasant, very nice person, very easy to talk to, and he checked all my fluorescent in the kitchen ‘cause this is a mobile home. I also asked him to check the other place where I have the light which is in the main bathroom, and he checked it all for me. Everything went good and I was pleased with his service.

He tried to figure out the problem, and he found out and then put the part in. Everything seems to be working fine and we’re happy with the work. American Home Shield provides service, though I hope they'd drop their $100 deductible.
Good morning Leslie,

I usually call to submit a claim to American Home Shield so that I know for sure that somebody was taking the information. I get their name and so, I can say, “I spoke to so and so, and this is what we're doing.” Most of the people AHS sends out are okay but some of them are not great. We had a well pump replaced some years ago and the person they sent gave us a hard time. He asked how deep the well was and when I said 300 feet, he said it was too deep and they couldn’t do it. The second one called out and said the same thing. I was thinking what was going on. AHS was reluctant to pay but they did. We also had a stove replaced last year and the people that put it in didn’t know what they were doing. It blew up and our house almost caught on fire. That was pretty bad.
When a gentleman from MR Heating and Air Conditioning came out, he was phenomenal. I was extremely satisfied and I would recommend them to other people because the guy was honest. He was a very smart guy and knew what it was before he has been out there. Maybe it's the typical thing you see 90% of the time, so he knew right away, but it doesn’t matter. He did what he could. He was there an hour and got the stuff done. He said what the deal was and he was out of there. I went back to work. I was thinking I'm done for the day because he was gonna be there the whole day until the afternoon but in the length of time he was there, he got it done. The overall experience was just really good. I got treated right and stuff was done correctly.

My water heater wasn’t putting out hot water. I submitted a claim online for it to American Home Shield three weeks ago and someone came out, but it started doing the same thing again after about two weeks. I called them for a follow-up and the same guy came out again on Monday and fixed it. So, I'm hoping that it's fixed. I've been with American Home Shield for 13 years, and as long as they keep being professional like they are now, they won't have complaints from me. I have recommended them to friends, too.

I always recommend American Home Shield. I’m one of the owners of a real estate company. I tell all my clients, friends and family that AHS has been fantastic and we are happy that we have the policy. When we had a problem with our garage door opener, my husband called AHS about it. He’s not very computer savvy. The contractors sent were professional and on time. They had an issue with their truck so they delayed the visit one day which no big deal. But they came out when they said they would. Within half an hour, they identified the problem and fixed it. It was something with the motor with the garage door opener. My husband was very happy so they did a great job.

I've had the American Home Shield warranty program since I bought the house last January, and I always forget that. Then something was wrong with the heating AC system and I was like, "Wait, I have a warranty." So I called them and it was very streamlined. The claims process was pretty easy. I talked to a live person and she was very nice. It was funny 'cause she submitted the request, and she told me that the technician would get with me within a few hours to schedule something. But as she was telling me this, there was a number calling in and that was the technician. So, that was pretty fast.
I got the phone with her and called the technician back, and they happen to be in my area. The tech asked if he could swing by and within 45 minutes to an hour and a half of being off the phone, he was here. He was very friendly, nice and professional. He explained a bunch of different things that the system that I have and he replaced the thermostat. He's hoping that that was the only issue, and so he went and diagnosed the system.
It was funny 'cause he turned the AC on, and when we were outside, he was checking the outside unit, checking the Freon, and level in the AC system. Then, he unlocked and I went to walk back in my front door and it was almost 75. We had a heat at 76 when he got here, it was still kinda cold and so it works. He even showed me how to use the new thermostat too. He told me that if there were other problems, I could always call him back and he'd resend back out here and then we'd go from there. So far, everything seems to be working like it should. Even if I didn't have the warranty group, I know now who I wanna call out for AC repairs and heating repairs now. But AHS seemed like a really a good company and I would recommend them.
My warranty goes out next month and I’ve gotta renew. It takes out all of the hassles because AHS screens the companies they use and everything else too. Being able to call one person to get stuff done is so much easier. It's nice knowing that if there is an issue, I can just pick up the phone, call them, and it's taken care of. Even with what I have to pay, it's still affordable because I just pay the $75 service fee and they take care of everything else. I live on my disability income and I have a fixed income, so for me, it's worth it. I even told my kids, my 19-year-old, that it's always better to have a lot of insurance and warranties and never need them, than never have it and then needing it, and then looking at big bulks because whether it's health or car insurance, you keep full coverage even it's been paid off. You just never know, it's just always better.

I pay for American Home Shield every month and I did the 125 deductible, which is very reasonable. It covered all my appliances, the heating and air. I recently sent in a claim for a piece for our furnace. They have a guy here in town, and he came out fairly quickly, looked at it, and knew what it was. He filled out the paperwork and he sent it back to American Home Shield the next day, which worked out real well. I checked with American Shield about three or four days later, and they said they were having trouble getting the parts because my furnace is older.
I checked back with American Home Shield the week of Thanksgiving and they had the part. They said that the parts would go directly to the guys that would fix it. I needed to check with the tech because he haven't come out and do it. I called in on Wednesday of Thanksgiving, and I was hoping he would be in that week, but he wasn't. They called me back on Monday and came out on Tuesday and fixed it. It took a little while, but it was because of the holiday. The tech very nice. He was very friendly and he immediately went and didn't waste any time and came back and told me what it was. I settled the paperwork they said and handed it to him the next day. We had a little glitch the other day with the furnace, but other than that, it seems to be fine. I'm satisfied with my experience. American Home Shield did a great job.

It was easier to do it over the phone because I had to go back and look at the model and all the stuff on the fridge before I could fill out the form online. The tech who came out to work on my fridge figured that it was not defrosting and draining right because there was something plugging up the hole. He defrosted the water line and now it froze again, but he told me how to unfreeze it and that i should do it again. He wasn’t overly friendly but I think it's just a cultural thing because he was middle European and he came off kinda gruff. He was a nice guy but he needs to work on his customer service skills a bit. Other than that, AHS has been pretty good overall. Every other call that I make to American Home Shield, I don't get any service. It's worth the money, but it's not a great service. The last claim I submitted to American Home Shield was for our garage door and it ended up not being covered so I had to pay out of my pocket. They covered the opener, but they don't cover the garage door itself, and some of this doesn't make any sense to me. But the contractor was fantastic and I'll recommend him to anybody I know. He told me that my policy covered the opener but not the door. He told me how much it would cost to get the door fixed, so I had it fixed and he did a wonderful job.
American Home Shield needs to replace things instead of trying to fix the junk that's there. I've had a bad experience with my air conditioning. Their contractors were coming out three times a year to repair and patch instead of replacing. I had to replace it out of my own pocket. For most things, American Home Shield is satisfactory. But for the big things, it frustrates the hell out of me. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield to everybody because it's the best home insurance policy out there. I may not be satisfied with the way they do things, but in the end run, it has saved me a lot of money.

They required that I manually restart the furnace and I was able to do that to stay warm until they could get it fixed. American Home Shield sent out another technician and he was able to solve the problem. It has been working fine and I’m happy about it.
I called AHS back for another issue I was having and they are still waiting on trying to find a part for me, and it has been about a week now. I told them that my temperature regulator on my shower doesn't alter. It stays lukewarm, although the rest of the water gets hot and there’s not much pressure. The fellow told me that the unit wasn’t probably allowing the water to get through because it’s an old unit. They would have to try to replace it, find a duplicate, or put a different unit in. That is the situation now and I’m waiting for them to get back in touch with me so they can do that.
The man who was here initially said that he would call me back the next day, but he didn’t. I called their office the following Monday, but I didn’t get an answer, so I called American Home Shield and the lady there was very helpful. She said she would get in touch with them. She did and she called back and left a message that she got in touch with them and they were still looking for the part. The service provided by American Home Shield has been decent, but I would have liked to have heard back more from them by now or tell me, “Well, if we can’t find a unit, we’re gonna put something else in there.”

Like the title said, shower handle broke off while showering. Contacting AHS for the first time so I called, waited for 45 mins and gave up. I found more info online and made a service request via website, automated system were much more prompt. Next day got a call from the technicians for scheduling the next day. Technician showed up on time but could fix with his tool because shower housing that holds its place will not budge so shower faucet couldn’t replaced that day. Next day got a call from them saying the warranty company will not cover the extra cost since now they need to cut the pipe from the other side of wall to replace that faucet.
However, AHS representative on the phone who told me the claim is denied due to pre-existing condition. Anyway, how is it pre-existing condition when it broke when I was showing? And why plumber does not have other option such as cut off the bolt other cut open the wall the cut the pipe? No matter how you look at it, customer is the loser. You paid the premium for such occasions and it’s not covered.

After total of 2 hours waiting time (had to call them multiple times because they hang up) on the phone one agent answered and seemed to tried to find out what happened, then she said 'you're right we'll refund you in 3-5 business days'.
10 days later which is today I didn't see the refund so called them, waited 45 min. to talk to someone, talked to her for 15 min. she said my premium is $ooo.oo (which was $250 more than I was expected) so I said I won't buy insurance from you if I know the amount, do you have an agreement with me with that amount? She replied yes. But she doesn't have my signature, she cannot send me via email, she can only read the agreement on the phone. She said she needs to get a specialist, - ok...another waiting time of 30 min. then they hang up.
I called credit card company to dispute, they asked me "did you aware of that they have your credit card number stored as autopay?" No! I gave my number to an agent couple month ago to purchase a premium for a year! As she suggested I requested a new card. Now, I have to work on update all my auto pay with credit card.

I purchased a home warranty policy with American Home Shield of California. I did so because the home I had just purchased was 10 years old and I figured some of the appliances might be nearing their end-of-life. In August, we started experiencing problems with our built-in refrigerator so we called AHS and they sent out a 3rd party contractor from Ace Appliance. The contractor determined the electric panel needed to be replaced and ordered the part. Unfortunately, the part was on back order because the model of our KitchenAid refrigerator is no longer made.
Weeks and months went by and we heard nothing. Every time we called to follow up we were told the same thing - "we are waiting for the part and there is no ETA". Well, 3 months later our refrigerator finally stopped working. It stopped working the day before Thanksgiving and, of course, all of our food spoiled. I called AHS and was told that as long as the appliance could hypothetically be fixed they would not replace the refrigerator regardless of how long it took to get the back ordered part. I asked if they would replace the refrigerator if the part did not arrive after waiting 3, 6, or even 12 months and they said no. As a result, I folded and bought a new refrigerator on my own. I am obviously very disappointed with American Home Shield and feel like I have been scammed. Buyer Beware.

This can cut down on a lot of negative reviews. And there should be a comment box on the invoice requesting a follow up if repairs are NOT met.
I went on AHS site 11/28/2018, request service for plumbing. I received a reply date 12/5/2018, appt time 12-5pm. The technician only had 3 months experience. He put some soap water around a few areas and could not find a leak although the system was down 2 pounds. He did not use a leak detector and had never heard of them.
After complaining, they sent out a second technician. From another low-quality provider. This technician had just 6 months experience. The system was now down 2 pounds. This technician filled the system with GAS, yes, GAS. Not the proper fluid. He said if there was a leak, the GAS would be detected. Almost blew up my system. Again, he said there was no issue even though I lost about a pound of fluid in about 2 weeks. I showed him exactly where the leak was from a leak detector that I had borrowed. He said that leak detectors were not reliable. However, all the top companies use this exact model. I complained again to no satisfaction. One time, a contractor came out about my heater not working and said that AHS wouldn’t cover any of it. He tried to sell me a whole new air conditioner system and a new furnace. I contacted AHS and told them what happened and I filed a complaint ‘cause they ended up sending another contractor out, who said it was just my thermostat and a blown fuse. The contractor fixed it within an hour and he was great. AHS was right on it and also refunded my $125 fee because of the issues.
The last claim I had was for a clogged drain coming out of my washer. AHS assigned it to somebody and it was right before the Thanksgiving holiday. The company was supposed to come out on a Friday, after Thanksgiving, and they never showed up. They called and said that they would be late and I had other things to do that afternoon so I couldn’t stay.
I contacted AHS and they rescheduled another company who came out the following Monday. They had a vendor that we weren’t satisfied with but they were able to switch to a local vendor eventually who finally repaired it. Also, getting calls into the system was so difficult. Once we get through and a vendor gets assigned, it seemed to go well but especially on a weekend, it's impossible to get through without being on hold for almost an hour.

However, we ended up replacing it on our own because I was so nervous with the difficulties we were having.

I wish American Home Shield, like other companies out there, has their own licensed people that do the job. I'm upset with the fact that they have to subcontract everything out. It’s a problem when their contractors don't call the customer back and they don't report to the customer on the findings or the completion. And it has happened to me before that a contractor never even called me for an appointment. Now, I have leak, and I'm at the mercy of the company that AHS contacted to contact me.
Given the leak that is dripping, you would think that the situation would be a priority. AHS told me that they would expedite things, but that's not true because I've had this leak for three weeks and it's still not fixed. I had one company come out that AHS got for me, who said it's fixed. Five hours later, it was leaking. I had to call that gentleman back and he never answered the phone. So obviously, I don't wanna use them anymore. I got somebody else that seems to be good.
The other problem with AHS is trying to get through to someone live. Then with all the automated stuff, you repeat yourself 10 times. It’s almost 2019, and technology is taking over, but AHS’ automated system is terrible. Sometimes I get a recording asking if I would like them to call me back, because the wait time is over 40 minutes. Yes, that would be good. But sometimes that does not happen. I'm on hold forever and nobody tells me anything about a callback. Then on one of the times that it worked and they called me back, I was told I was next in line, but I still waited 30 minutes. And if they would have to call me back each time that I called, then that should be part of the automated system. As a customer, it's very, very frustrating not to be able to get to somebody, and I should be able to get to a customer service rep fairly quickly. I've used AHS a few times. Sometimes the process is very smooth but sometimes it's a disaster.

I was having power problems and I needed an electrician here. I spoke to a rep at American Home Shield and they called an electrician then they called me to make the date. I called on Friday and the contractor finally came on a Saturday. He came at 5 o'clock. The guy had been working all day. He looked at my box and said what was wrong. He switched all the little things and the power was on. He was great. Everything has been operating well since then. We've been with American Home Shield for two years now and I feel very good that I have this insurance on my things here.

I have used American Home Shield before and I was happy with them. Recently, there was leaking going on in my neighbor’s garage and that is below my restroom. I submitted a claim online. It was my first time using it and it was very easy to use. The time frame from dispatching and getting a contractor out was pretty quick. It was less than five days. The contractor who came out to service was from High Priority Plumbing and I had a positive interaction with him.

I went online and then reported to American Home Shield I needed the service for my water heater and AHS sent out a plumber. It was excellent with the contractor, customer-service-wise. They gave me choices on what I could do as far as types of issue that I might have. Also, I was thinking about putting a tankless water heater and I wanted to find out what was my option with that. They did an estimate and gave me the code and everything was easy. I would highly recommend AHS. I've had them for five years now and it has gone pretty well for me.
Good morning Jaime,

I have an American Home Shield app and I file claims through there. It is really easy to use and it has all my information so everytime I click on something, there’s a dropdown and I simply select on there. Then, I give a brief description of what the issue is and once done, someone calls within a day or so. We finish up on whatever information they need and they would schedule someone to come out.
I had a couple appliances that had broken including one of the dispensers in my refrigerator door where I get water or ice got broken and my cooktop touchscreen. The claim process was really easy and they had someone out within a week. The repairman was able to repair one of the three items and it went well. The refrigerator was fixed with no problem. The stove still worked but the spring was cracked so it didn’t qualify for a replacement. They no longer had parts for repairs on the dryer so they’re actually replacing it. I’ll have a new dryer that will supposed to be delivered on Saturday which I’m sure is gonna be pushed back because of the weather we have coming in. Overall, I’m satisfied with the service and the result. I have recommended and I would recommend American Home Shield to my friends.

I usually submit claims through the technician. If it's something that they can fix when they're here, it's just done then they put in the claim with American Home Shield. Most recently, our microwave was making a humming sound and sparking. When the technician came out, he said that it was normal mechanical failure and that at some point, it must have arced. Behind the inside panel, there's a burn mark where the metal melted. He said that the microwave is a fire hazard now and he told us not to use it until the claim process.
About a year ago, we also had a problem with the microwave but it didn’t make the sound or do the sparking. The handyman who was sent out never opened the panel on the inside and noticed the problem. So we wound up using it and having the occasional sound and spark. We didn’t know exactly what was going on until now and thankfully, nothing happened during that time. The gentleman who came this time actually knew of the handyman before and he thought that the handyman was not a reliable electrician. In comparison, the gentleman we had this time was knowledgeable and very helpful. He told us what to expect and we were very appreciative.

I had a claim where I had somebody come out and take a look at plumbing, and then another claim where I had somebody come and take a look at duct work. I filed the claims over chat, and it was easy and pretty quick. I had a good experience on both of the contractors. They were really professional and really knowledgeable. The issues were all fixed. Everything was pretty easy to come out when we dealt with American Home Shield. When I was talking to the tech, she mentioned some caveats on the things that were and weren’t covered. But whenever the techs come out, they don't have any of these issues obviously pop up.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Danny. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs.Have an amazing week.

I've had issues with American Home Shield before. This all started back in 2013. We had a leak in our house and they sent over a plumber, who said that his best guess was that the leak was coming from the shower pan. But I told him that it was coming from under the floor 'cause it was coming up through the ground in the tile. So, he was wrong.
My wife also told him that she heard a noise on the wall in the guest bathroom and he ignored her. My brother-in-law had a stethoscope and pinpointed the leak. The plumber still ignored us. AHS took plumber’s side and said that they weren't gonna fix it. So, I had to call another plumber out of Taylor Texas, then we found a leak in the other bathroom which should have been covered by AHS. He went over there and went right exactly where the water was said to be leaking. He opened up the wall and replaced the pipes. Once he fixed it, AHS told me that they didn't call that, so they were not paying for it.
AHS supposedly has a remediation thing, but it's all based on their initiatives. I went through the remediation thing and tried to get reimbursed for that plumber. I sent mail to the post office and emails too, but they ignored me and didn't return my calls. There needs to be more competition out there. I do know the nature of the business. It’s hard to make money in that kind of a business, I understand that because they don't have any idea what people are getting into.
Also in 2013, there was an issue with the toilet in the master bathroom and AHS sent a plumber over and fixed it. Two years later, we had the same problem. The plumber came over and fixed it. Here it is, 2018, we have the same problem. Another plumber came over and he said that the toilet wasn't installed right, so AHS said that they were not covering it. I didn't fight with them over that because they said that they have to go by what the plumber said. I said, "This is the third time. If it wasn't installed right, why did the other two plumbers never say anything about it and they fixed it." It seems to me AHS looks for reasons not to fix that.
Something is wrong down there but AHS can't say for sure that it wasn't installed properly because this is the third plumber that looked at it. The other two fixed the toilet fine, and it worked fine for two years. AHS is saying now that they're gonna send a plumber over for a second opinion. I said, "Well, what's gonna keep him from saying, 'Yeah, it looks like an improper install' and then, we're gonna be back to square one." In the meantime, I got a toilet sitting over on top of the floor, we got a hole in the floor, we got rug stuff in there, but what am I paying for?
AHS's service is terrible. If it's something quick, fast and in a hurry, that they don't have to spend a whole lot of money, they fixed it with no problem. But if it's something that looked like it may actually, cost a few dollars, they find a reason not to cover it. Normally, I submit a claim with AHS online and that's easy to do. They've just replaced a garbage disposal. But with my washing machine, the repair guy came over five times before he finally got it fixed. And then, twice on the dryer 'cause the dryer went out right after. Once AHS agrees to fix something, the quality of work is okay. But most of the time, when it comes to plumbing, they don't wanna fix anything.
I regret to learn that you have had issues stemming from 2013. A member of our Social Media team will be in contact with you to discuss your service concerns.

I've been very happy with American Home Shield. We had a problem with our heater. The heating unit went out. I put in the request online and they sent a reply back to me very quickly about who they had assigned it to. I put in the request on a Saturday and that following Monday the company contacted me and came out within 30 minutes of when they told me they would be there. I told the contractor what was wrong and he went up into the attic and diagnosed what the problem was. The igniter had gone bad. He then went back to his truck, got a replacement and installed it. He was finished within an hour and we have heat now.
I've had two other claims with AHS and I've been very impressed with the quality of the people they send out. They fixed the problems. We had some things with the pool that had to be fixed as well. Having the warranty is pretty valuable. Our house is an older house. It felt like getting the warranty was a good investment to cover some of the equipment, especially since we have a pool. It has been worth what we've paid. The premium is a little expensive, but at the same time, if you have something major go out, it's taken care of.

We had two issues, one in the bathroom closet and one in the kitchen, and he just went ahead and took care of them, then he was out the door. Everything has been working great since the repairs and we like AHS very much.

I called American Home Shield, sat on the phone for over an hour and they picked up. I was talking to them, and then they put me on hold. It somehow disconnected me and nobody ever called me back. My husband called, sat on hold for an hour, and then the call disconnected. Our HVAC died and the only way I've been able to get a hold of American Home Shield is over the internet. We have had people out about three times and the first contractor that was sent out showed up almost two hours after the three-hour window they requested we'd be at home for. We were out of town and by that point, the people we had at the house already left.
We had to reschedule with them and the second time, they were late again, but not by nearly as much. After that, they were good at being responsive. They had to order two different parts and never called me to tell me they came in or to schedule to come out, so I stayed on top of calling them to find out when the part came in so they would come out and install it. On the other hand, the second company was quick and thorough. They came out yesterday and gave me the information I needed, but American Home Shield wanted a second opinion to decide how to fix our heating unit in the middle of winter.
They requested another company come out, and then they canceled that appointment and never scheduled with another company. We have an older system, so it's been really hard to diagnose what's wrong with it. I appreciate that people continue to come and try to figure it out when things have gone wrong. I'm happy with the quality of work and I'm glad we carry the warranty, but it is a little difficult to talk to a person and get a problem solved quickly.

One of our homes had a refrigerator go out so we turned it in. American Home Shield sent Sears to do the work and the contractor was awesome and did a good job. However, the lag time between the time we turned it in and when the service actually came was a little slow as it took a little over a week. I didn’t hear back from them after the service agent turned in his report so I had to call after the service call. They called me back and right after a little bit, we were able to come to a resolution. They gave us the money less the deductible to replace the refrigerator and so far, so good.

I had an excellent experience with American Home Shield. My washing machine stopped draining and I submitted the claim online from my app. It was quick and easy. An appointment was set and the tech they sent showed up on a Friday. On the app, I took a picture and put in my model number and the kind of washing machine. So, AHS detailed my tech to the product that I had. He knew exactly what was wrong with my washer when he came in. He was on time, very professional and courteous. He tore the machine down and looked at it. He had to get the part and got the part on Saturday but was back at my house on Monday. I was back up and running. He even cleaned my washing machine's little holes that had a little clog in it from soap buildup. Thereafter, I got his card because if my washer goes out again, I want AHS to send the same person out.

When I came home, my furnace wasn't working. I tinkered with it and it started back up, but when I came home the next night, it was out again and it didn't fire back up. I called American Home Shield and filed a claim, and I waited until I got a representative. I had someone call but they never showed. AHS said they were backed up 'cause it was very cold. I asked them if they could get someone else, so they went with a different company. The contractor came out the next day and determined what the issue was. They ordered the part and said it would take two days.
I wasn't there when he came the first time, but he explained to my wife and showed her what was out. He came back in two days and communicated through text. I received the text and the timeframe that he was gonna be there. He came on time and worked on the furnace for an hour. I was there for him when he installed it, and he asked me to come down and watch him. He changed the motor out, and I stood there and he showed me how the inductor ignites the pilot, how that motor works and how important it was. He showed me a lot of things to the furnace that were important. He got the furnace running and I was very impressed. I would definitely recommend AHS to others.

Last November 20, I called for a service and American Home Shield sent Royal Air to come to my apartment to check my heater. On the first day, the tech stayed for an hour but he couldn't do anything. He told me somebody would come later, but until 5:00 in the afternoon, nobody came. Then my friend called again and the next day, somebody came. I was very unhappy and I complained all the time why I had to do this.
I asked the tech to send me a report and he said that the heater was just very dirty. I also asked the contractor that if my heater or whole unit was broken, then they should send me a quote and they should decide if I had to fix the heater or to change it. I called the company and asked the technician to call me back but until today, nobody called. American Home Shield is also like that and when I call them, the customer service tells me a supervisor will call me back but nobody does. And the first two times, the phone just discontinued when I was in the middle of speaking. But one lady was very nice and helped me.
It was winter and I couldn't stay in the cold so I called another company who came right after. I was fine with American Home Shield before and that was why I renewed it. This time, I won't recommend my friends to use AHS because it's harder to communicate with them. Also, when I call, I have to spend an hour or more to listen to their beautiful music.

There were a few plumbing issues that I was trying to get resolved and it was frustrating that they sent out a plumber from one company but he did not resolve it. AHS sent him back and he still didn't resolve it. Then, we had an issue with another toilet but AHS wouldn't let the plumber address that. Instead, I had to submit another claim. I assumed they would send the same guy that had been coming but they switched companies on me. I just had that company do everything, and they took care of it. It made me think why they sent the first guy when he has not resolved the first issue two times. AHS should stay consistent with the companies that they send out. Plus, I paid $75 every time they came. I've had a plumber out three or four times, and I paid that $75 fee the same number of times.
The plumber said the blockage in our toilet would only be covered by American Home Shield if he could get to it through the outside access. They wouldn't cover it if he had to snake it from the toilet. So, I paid $100 since the plumber had to do it from there rather than from outside the house. It has to be very specific. The contractor said he could unplug it and the stoppage should be covered by the warranty. It should not matter which direction he unplugged it from.

We had a number of appliances that weren’t working properly and were breaking down so AHS had a service technician come out and look at them. We had two different rounds of ordering parts, and a couple of the appliances have been replaced, and a couple are still in process. Submitting the claim is really easy. You just get online, log into your account and submit a claim using the online web form. It's not super detailed. You're just kind of putting your claim up to four items on one claim, and then the dispatch sends you a text confirming that you've put in a claim, and then within 24 hours, the service contractor contacts you. They would ask for more information then make an appointment to send out a tech to look at your items.
The contractors, for the most part, were super friendly. It sounds like they generally send out somebody just to look at it and order parts first, so it's not necessarily the fastest process in the world but I'm assuming that every process would have to go that way. It would have to come in and check the appliances and then decide what parts you need and then order the parts. We've been waiting on a couple of rounds of parts for our dishwasher and refrigerator for a while now. And if the contractor can't find the parts, American Home Shield finds them for us, and then they come in and install them. So, with the back and forth, it can take a little while but generally, it seems like it's really worth it cost-wise.
The washer and dryer needed to be replaced because the parts were not available. We have a very small opening to our basement so there's only one brand that we can purchase. But American Home Shield didn’t offer that brand, so we ended up purchasing them ourselves, and they are sending a reimbursement check for that. The one thing would just be it takes a little time to get things finished. I can't choose the contractors. They sort of just assign a contractor to you, but for the most part, even if things are going slowly, as long as I call and get in contact, I can get people to quickly respond.
AHS has been really great so far. I've been impressed with the amount of coverage that we get. We've also been able to do some electrical work and plumbing work that really needed to get done, and both of them went really well too. It's an easy process. I would definitely recommend them to friends, especially friends who are buying a new house and friends who are buying a "new" old house

I called American Home Shield due to a leak in the garbage disposal at the bottom. We've been here 17 years and then all of a sudden, it's been leaking a little bit. It kept leaking more and more and finally, we had a pan underneath it. American Home Shield told me they would get somebody out the following day. It was outstanding how their rep did the communication, the clarity of it, and their willingness to find somebody that would come right out. And the contractor was also fantastic. He was great-mannered, with good form and was well-informed about all the situations we were asking about. He brought the part that they had pre-ordered because that was a possibility. So, in about 30 minutes, he was finished. We got a new garbage disposal and things have been superb since. We also had a concern about a faucet that we wanted to change, and I took the guy's recommendation and it was absolutely perfect. We appreciated his attitude.
Every contractor that AHS had sent out, whether for fixing the microwave, the stove or the disposal, had been fantastic. We had a guy here one time for the air conditioner and he was very well-informed and had great attitude. The contractors were competent, quick and very responsive. And the prices that AHS has on a monthly basis are very reasonable. So, I recommend AHS all the time.

Let me first say that I acquired this warranty by switching escrow companies at the last minute and it has truly been worthless. I've tried to put in 3 claims now and to be totally fair, my last claim was partially my fault. I took advantage of their promotion to pay $75 and get a furnace check-up and had to cancel my appt at the last minute so AHS would not refund the $75 I pay. However this happened after previously trying to put in multiple claims for my plumbing. That was a nightmare filled with claim operators purposefully leaving out key information about my reported claims, REALLY long hold times just to get someone on the phone, and useless supervisor escalations only to be given a vague and inaccurate rejection of my claim because the company tries to reject its responsibility. Take your business elsewhere or save your money.

AHS use to be a great company and I have sent many referrals but that has completely changed. It is VERY difficult to get problems resolved. Time and time again the contractors don't finish the job but say they have to get paid. There are multiple reasons why I stopped using AHS but when they continue to confirm they don't care about long term customers, it's time to move. One of our appliances though was a couple of days over the allotted time for somebody to come back, which is 60 days, and we ended up having to pay another service fee. Sometimes when they put new parts on, it takes longer for it to get oiled up and get used enough to possibly have a problem again. If they've put in new parts, they should give it a little bit longer time. Also, it'd be nice if I could à la carte pick things in my package. I called American Home Shield four times and I requested service for the furnace. The lady rep who talked with me two weeks ago told me that rust is covered by my insurance. But when the technician came to check, he said it wasn't covered. My insurance only covers it if it's rust and the unit is not working. But with my furnace, everything is working normally and the only problem is the rust. There was a lot of rust though.
I've been with American Home Shield for three years now and I like them because they cover plumbing, electrical and the appliances. Sometimes we accidentally break something. When I have to replace my appliances, I call them. When my bathroom was leaking, American Home Shield had everything fixed. That was good. But although they cover everything in the house, I have to pay more, and for me, it's a lot of money. I have a mortgage to pay on this house and I pay $800-$900 for this insurance every year. Their service and the coverage are so expensive and it's too much for me. I wanna put insurance only for my appliances. I don’t want insurance for plumbing and electrical issues. My wife and I cook every day and I need insurance only for my stove, air conditioning, furnace, dryer, washer and refrigerator.

Everybody is always pleasant and takes care of business quickly when I call AHS. When I set up a ticket, they always have somebody to call me within three days. The contractors have been great. They come in and fix the problem quickly. Plus, they are always nice and polite. They make sure everything is working properly before they leave. Recently, the toilet and the faucet were leaking. But everything has been working great since the repair.

I called American Home Shield for my washer that was making a noise, and for the refrigerator that just stopped working. Submitting claims for those went well, although it was not a simple process because AHS puts me on hold for quite a while whenever I call. This time, I stayed on the phone for 11 minutes but hold times can range up to 30 minutes. And then, they call me back.
Then once they send out their contractors, some are very good but there's a language barrier with some. I have that problem with one appliance company that AHS has sent out. But the techs are always polite and they usually get the job done. Then if there's any complaint, they come right back. And now, another technician is coming out to work on the refrigerator because the original one that was sent out couldn’t do the job. AHS was very prompt in finding another company that could do it. I am very satisfied with their service and I’ve recommended them to quite a few people.

The handle on my stove broke three months ago, but we were not sure we wanted to file a claim. But then, the display on the stove started acting out too, so we decided to file a claim. We did it online because it was faster. The AHS reps as well as the contractors have been very professional and nice. When the contractors first came, they assessed the problem and they told us they were going to check with AHS to see what they were gonna do. It was during the holiday, so I didn’t hear from them. And on Tuesday, after Thanksgiving, I called the provider directly and find out what was going on. They said they had ordered the parts, and they were waiting on parts. They also said that they were gonna be receiving the part within the next day. I got a call the next morning that the part was in, and they came the next afternoon. So far, we have not had any bad experience with AHS. Everything has been positive.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and the site was easy to use. However, calling in wasn’t so pleasant. There had been three times when I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes, and I don’t have the patience for that. That was in the heat of the summer last year. I was gonna cancel my membership but I thought that I didn’t have that many things left that could go wrong, so I kept it. And I’m glad I did because I had to replace my filtration system and it cost me $125. The guy that did it was fantastic. He came out right away and got it done in a couple of days.
A board went out on my microwave recently. The contractor contacted me right away and he came out quickly. He had to order a part so he came back the following week and put in the part. He was very professional, polite and was on time. And he got it fixed. My initial experience with American Home Shield was not good, but it has gotten better, so I will be keeping it for now.

The upstairs bathroom was leaking and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield on their website. It took three days to get the first contractor out and then, he refused to work. He wasn't interested in fixing it and so, he said that it was a lot bigger job than it actually was compared to what the other plumbers have said. AHS got me on schedule with a different contractor and it took a week to get him out. It was an aggravating experience with American Home Shield. The contractors did not like the repair and they outright refused the claim even though there was no avoiding it. They said that for them it qualified as a modification, so they were not obligated to cover the repair. So, I ended up getting a different plumber out there and just pay them out of pocket. It was the worst claim experience by far.
I had another claim on a refrigerator ice maker. The contractor came out the first time and told me that I had the freezer keycode. Then, he left and didn't solve the problem. I had to send him back out to make a repair. Generally, the contractors that American Home Shield sends out are sub-par. I've had other companies that have home warranties. In every house I bought that had American Home Shield, it has not been worth it. I had a warranty on my previous home and they never denied any claims. They were also easier to deal with. Getting into a new home, a home warranty is important. We always added it on all our contract negotiations. However, I won’t be using AHS again. Also, I will not call American Home Shield again even though I still got about six months left on my contract and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.
Good afternoon Wesley,
I understand your concerns regarding your experience to have the plumbing repaired and the delay in service. I would be glad to speak with you regarding the denial and address the issues.

My gas heater was working intermittently. Sometimes it was blowing cold air and sometimes it wasn't coming on. Then, it would work one day but did not work at night. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield late Saturday and I wanted somebody to be there at the time when I wasn't working, which was Monday. I thought somebody would show up on Monday but they were booked and nobody showed up. The first thing I did in the morning that Monday was to call American Home Shield and I was on the phone over two hours. I never had a chance to talk to anybody. They put on the music then forgot about me. It was horrible. But when I file a claim with American Home Shield on the computer, I just put the information and it would be great.
The techs from American Technology finally showed up late Tuesday but when they checked, the gas heater was working. So they told me to call them again when the problem happens. When it happened again. I called and they came. They said it could be the thermostat, so they changed it. Then it happened again. So the guy came and he was on the roof for a while in the dark and the cold. He noticed that something wasn't shutting and he told me he had changed it and put a universal part. He fixed it and hopefully that took care of the problem. The technicians were very nice although I felt bad for the last person that came. The heater wasn't working and he came late. It was dark already outside.

When they came, the first guy couldn't fix it and he needed somebody else. The other person had a medical situation in his family so it took 10 days to get it fixed. The guy walked through the house and said he didn’t have any of the things he needs. He left. I called AHS immediately and they tried to charge $75. They kept resolving it, but then I kept getting a bill. I called the owner of that company and the guy quit work that same day. I’ve had the policy on some of my existing houses for over 10 years. They said I needed to get it fixed, and since I didn’t know one way or the other, I called American Home Shield. I was very pleased with the person that came out. He was very thorough, and after he checked, it turned out there was nothing wrong. It was just the outer coating of the pipe that had a couple of cracks. I still got charged a fee though, so I was disappointed by that. Another thing is that it takes a long time to get through to AHS. That’s not good when it comes to trying to get something done and being nervous about it. But I discovered if you call them at about 5:00 in the morning, you might get lucky.
AHS also sent us an electrician who fixed my plug a day before the holiday. It didn’t work on Thanksgiving Day, so the guy came out again a couple of days later, and the plug worked. The problem with American Home Shield is that it seems like sometimes they don't give the consumer all the information that they need. With my pool, I have three pumps. When I got my insurance, I had everything insured, including all the pumps. Most recently, they were telling me that my water feature pump is not covered. I said to them, "If it's not covered, why didn't you guys mention that to me when it was time to renew?" They don't do that. It's an omission thing with them where they may know something and don't wanna tell you what you can and cannot do, and that got me upset. They need to have people on the line who can tell me, "You don't have this piece insured. Maybe you wanna get it done." And then I can make a decision if I wanna pay the extra money or not. They need to be a little more assertive in taking care of their customer.
We recently called them to make a claim for my exterior pool pump, and the submission process was not that difficult. The first people that came out didn't do a good job 'cause they were trying to blame me for causing the problem. AHS sent out a new pool guy from Platinum Pool that did an excellent job. The performance has been good since the repair. I have them on other properties too.

After tech reviewed that a new water heater was needed, AHS contacted me stating we had to pay out of pocket an additional $695.00!!! What? What is the need of home warranty if it's going to cost us homeowners ALL THIS money when something unexpected happens?
I contacted AHS again and rep stated that according to our contract under article 14, whatever, that they do not cover earthquake straps for $90, permit for $180, etc. Unreal! I did further research and found out earthquake straps cost $20 at Lowe's and permit $60. So who is being honest? Read the fine print before getting this home warranty and make sure to put extra money aside because they DO NOT COVER EVERYTHING!!!

On the 12th of November we put in for a service call for our washing machine. Response time was fine and a service tech came out in the 13th and we were quickly told and sent an email that AHS had agreed to replace the machine. On the 14th we went to Lowe’s and purchased a new washer. I sent the receipt by email to the designated email address immediately after the purchase. On the 23rd I spoke with a representative to confirm that AHS had received the email receipt, and was told they had and that it was in process.
The recording for the reimbursement line tells you 10-14 days to process reimbursement checks. On the 3rd of December I contacted AHS again, and after being on hold for over an hour, spoke with another representative who told me that they were so overwhelmed with reimbursements that it was going to take another 21 days, maybe more before our check was processed. At this point I asked to speak with a manager and was told one would contact me. No contact by anyone for the rest of the day on the 3rd and no contact by anyone as of 6 p.m. yesterday evening. I called again last night, again was on hold for a 1/2 hour and was told by another representative that they would put an email in for a manager to contact me.
This is ridiculous! We have Christmas coming up and almost $900 that is being held up on our credit card because we have not received reimbursement. Our payments to AHS come out every month and the $100 for the service calls come out immediately. There is no excuse for why we don’t have our reimbursement check in hand already! One highly irritated consumer!

The plumber discovered that it was below my shower and that the seal in my shower drain was not sealed down underneath. So the plumber sealed it then he went down and tore out some of that sealing down there to make sure the leak had stopped. Then, AHS sent another group to come and patch the sealing. They did a great job of puttying it and I was very pleased with the whole thing.
However, when I was dealing with things last year, I was waiting 45 minutes on the phone every time I called. And once I got somebody, if I had to be transferred to another place, which I did several times just because we were further along in the process, I didn’t have to wait quite as long but it was another 20 minutes. That was a little bit frustrating. This last time, I called for a new claim and the waiting wasn’t quite that long. It was only about 20 or 25 minutes. So I went online and put in another call for something. But these were follow ups where I had to check on things and they were more complicated. On the complicated one, what had been told to me by somebody else wasn’t put in the record of that particular thing so I had to do it all over again. But everything worked out.

I had an issue with my fridge. I called American Home Shield and they sent Sears out to my house. However, the techs didn’t do it right, they didn’t fix it. So, over the course, from September until last week, Sears was at my home around nine times. They sent different technicians and everybody had a different issue. One guy walked in my house and said, “It’s this,” and went outside and got a steam tool and steamed out the back of the refrigerator. The next guy came and it was something else. Another guy came and it also was something else. One guy also said that he needed to order me some parts, and he did. The parts came, but they were the wrong parts, and it was another week.
I was on the phone with them a whole bunch of times and everybody was trying to help me. I also spoke with an escalation lady who told me to buy a refrigerator, but there was some confusion there. I understood that she was gonna give me the $100 back for the deductible and an additional $100 to provide the refrigerator, however, the truth of the matter was she was just gonna give me the $100 or refund me the 100 bucks. My wife and I had taken time off work and we had thrown food out. I called American Home Shield and asked if the throwing of the food out was covered. The rep said no and it was okay. I should have read the fine print.
After the eighth or ninth time that the techs came out, I called again and said that we were still having the same problem. I asked if they could send a different company. They sent out AHA or American Home Appliance and they were great. The tech came to my house and looked at everything, and he said what the problem was or what was wrong. He said what we needed to do to fix it and I said okay. He ordered the parts and the parts came. We called them and they came out to the house and fixed the fridge. We did everything that he asked us to do, like defrosting. We had no fridge for two days at all and the fridge was defrosted, which was really crappy. But their guy came out and fixed it.
Sears supervisors are useless. I tried talking to them and I asked them why they kept sending people they knew that were not pioneered with their company for a major issue. The whole Sears thing was an issue for me, but everything got straightened out with American Home Appliance. I knew that Sears was gonna be crap and I told AHS to get somebody else because Sears doesn’t know what they are doing. Originally, I was with Sears as a home warranty company, but they did not come to my house when we called them, they send out AHA. I left Sears because the technician who came back to my house told me to switch to American Home Shield and said that AHS is a better company.
AHS customer service was good and they tried to work with me every single time. The last woman I spoke with was the best, although at that point, I was beyond frustrated and I was gonna cancel with them. But AHS was great and I had no issues with them. I recommended American Home Shield and my buddy signed up with them a couple of months ago.

We thought that something was wrong with the heater but we weren't sure, so we called American Home Shield to get it checked. It took close to an hour to get through to make the call to talk to somebody. We kept calling and we would get put on hold. It was terrible. I had two phones and a computer turned on trying to get through to them. When I finally got to them, I told them what I wanted and they set me up for a contractor to come out and check our heater. The rep told us the contractor would be here at 12 o’clock but at 1 o’clock, nobody has shown up and no one has called us. We were just sitting here waiting.
I called the people at the repair place that was gonna do the work and I didn’t have any problem reaching them. They said that their guy was running late, but he should be here pretty soon. They also said that they didn't know why they would even come to our house because they couldn't do what American Home Shield called them for, and we needed somebody else. So I told them to just cancel the service and then I called American Home Shield again. I waited again until I finally reached somebody and then I changed my claim to just an inspection call.
American Home Shield, however, billed me for the service call that the contractor did not make even though they’ve told American Home Shield that the appointment was called off. I've been billed for the inspection call but now I'm waiting to try to get my money back from the first service call. I asked to speak with a supervisor several times but I could not get one. After all the phone calls I've made to American Home Shield to resolve the issue, they finally told me they could credit it. But although it just took them 24 hours to lock in my account, it's gonna be 14 to 21 days before I get a check back. And if I'm not happy with that, they said I should get in touch with their retention department, which I did.
The lady at retention pulled up my record and since it was a debit card, it's three to five days. But it has been three days so far and the credit hasn’t happened yet. American Home Shield debited my account the very day that the call was made when they shouldn’t have taken the payment out until 48 hours after the work was done. So American Home Shield doesn't do anything that they tell you they're gonna do and I still don’t have my $107 back which they said they would send to me. My wife and I are retired and we live on a fixed income, so $107 to us is a lot of money.
I've had American Home Shield for almost four years and I've been in this type of business all my life. If I treated people like I was treated by American Home Shield, there wouldn’t be any business later. It was a horrible experience with American Home Shield and I'm going to cancel the contract. They're the worst company I have ever dealt with and I'm looking for another warranty company right now.

The gas furnace wasn’t working. Once it got below the temperature needs, the heat of the furnace was not kicking on. I filed my claim to AHS through the internet and navigating through it was a simple process. It took about three days for the contractors to be out and they were cordial. I know the theory of having a home warranty compared to calling a service directly. I know that the warranty is gonna be pushing to fix the problem instead of replacing the part. What happened was the tech came out and he fixed the issue. Then before he left, I wanted to make sure if there is a part that needed to be replaced as I know sometimes it takes time to get parts or he's just fixing it because he has to. I have two young children in the house, it’s winter, and it’s my furnace.
The tech just said the part was fixed but then the next day, it stopped working again. I put in a recall and then it took three additional days for the contractor to come back out, so I had no heat for three days, which was frustrating. But I understand sometimes things happen. My issue was as soon as he came back, he was like, “All right, I have to order this part now.” The same part that I asked about three days earlier. When I asked why he couldn’t just order the part when he solved the problem three days earlier, he said that when you go through the home warranty, you run this risk of having this problem. If you call the place directly, it gets fixed quickly. And now, the part might take five to seven days to come in.
I called American Home Shield the next day because the contractor said he was restricted with the vendors he can use with different parts because of American Home Shield, and that’s just the way it is. I asked if the part could be expedited since it’s December, I don’t have heat, and I have two kids in the house. I also told American Home Shield, “I don't care if my dishwasher goes out. I can wash dishes with my hand. I don’t care if my microwave goes out. I can cook my food on my stove. The reason why I have a home warranty is so when my heat goes out in December, I don't have a problem.” My issue was I had no heat for seven days over two calls, and I was basically told, “That’s just the way it is,” by American Home Shield and by the contractor.
I wasn’t fully satisfied with how my claim was handled and the answers I got. I’m not positive I’m gonna continue with American Home Shield based off this scenario. The one thing I wanted the warranty for is with this exact problem, and I would rather just call a service and get somebody out to replace the part and pay the extra money.
This is the second time I’ve used the warranty. One time, my refrigerator went out and I had to wait around 10 days to get someone to come and replace my refrigerator part. I had another refrigerator in the garage, so it wasn’t a big deal. But I’m not seeing the benefits of having the home warranty when it seems like there’s not a premium put on an American Home Shield customer compared to somebody that just calls the service to get it done. I have money and I’m not someone who struggles with a paycheck. The thing that I don’t want to happen, happened twice, and I’m not overly thrilled. Investigate before purchasing a warranty because it is a very nice present, but sometimes when you open the box it’s not what you expected.

Our sewer backed up and AHS sent a contractor who looked at the sewer and addressed it. They scoped it and found there was a blockage outside of our slab. We had some extensive work done and it was not covered by AHS. Nevertheless, everybody from On Time Plumbing has done an amazing job. Also, we've used AHS twice now on this house and once on our other house. They've addressed the problem in a timely manner. I have found everyone out of AHS to be very polite. We have had a good experience with them and have had a fast turnaround on getting people out. We've been very pleased with them.

I had recessed light fixtures that were burned out or not wired as the wiring was burned. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for that and navigating through their website was fairly intuitive and there wasn’t anything that I found confusing. I got a phone call the next day, and then based on the contractor's availability, Joseph took two weeks to come out here. I had a really good interaction with him. He was very friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and seemed to know what the issue was. Since the repair, everything has been fine. The home warranty helped me out of a couple situations and having to not think about who to go to for help. Other people could take a look at AHS and investigate whether it’s something that they would recommend.

Our furnace was not working, so we didn’t have any heat. I went to American Home Shield's page and submitted them the claim. The same day I got information about the contractor, and it was the contractor that I had a bad experience with in the past. I made a phone call, and AHS was able to get it to a different contractor. The contractor that came out was good. They checked it out, diagnosed the problem, got the authorization to get the part, ordered the part, got it and sent somebody out to install it. To get the problem fixed, it took a week and a half ‘cause it was over the holidays and things were a little bit delayed. American Home Shield has been very helpful and I've been very satisfied with my experience with them.

The tool that American Home Shield has is really nice because if you're somebody like me who sits at a computer all day and couldn't be on the phone during regular work hours, it would only take about three minutes to submit a claim. Recently, I had two claims. One was because I didn’t have water or heat for four days. I also had a plumber about a month ago that did some work. He did fine, but he didn’t check all of the parts of the drain assembly before he said he was done. The next morning, I woke up and the area underneath the kitchen sink was soaking wet in the floor. So I called American Home Shield first and they let the plumber know. Then, the contractor sent out a guy from their shop and got it fixed. Nevertheless, my experience was still good. They contractors have been great and professional, and they've always told me what was going on.
I've told several people about the warranty that I bought 'cause you gotta be careful with insurance. I worked in that industry so there's a lot of rip-off companies out there that put fine print that don’t really align to take much off of the claim or even really make one. But so far, everything that I've ever had to report, has been covered. It's been the real deal. I pay my co-pay or deductible and the service person shows up and does the work. And so far, I haven't seen any extra bills for any parts that they've used. Like when they put a circuit board in the furnace which usually runs anywhere from 100 to 200 bucks, if not more.

My experience with American Home Shield has generally been good. We typically submit claims over the phone and my wife does it most of the time. The procedure has been simple. We still have one claim going on, though. Somebody came out to repair our washing machine but couldn't, and said it was dead. AHS gave us a credit for the purchase of a new machine, which we selected one, and this got going 30 days ago. When the guys came to deliver the unit, they said the cold water valve in the wall was inoperable and that their company policy is to shut off the water, install the machine and turn it back on.
The washing machine was back out here but the valve had to be replaced. We called another contractor, AMP Plumbing, and they were very good guys. The contractor came out and looked at the valve. Then he scheduled another time to come out and fix it, which he did. He had to cut some drywall away, however, so we’ve been waiting to hear from the drywall people who were supposed to come back to do the six inch patch about a week ago. All the contractors that have come to us have been through American Home Shield and things have been handled appropriately.

He told me that it was something that wasn’t covered under American Home Shield with my shower so I had to fix it myself, but I still had to pay the $100 deductible for him coming out. My heater went out next and I had to go outside of AHS. I had to call my solar panel company and I paid their technician to come out and fix my ecobee system, which was just a simple download. The guy from AHS said he couldn’t touch it because he was not the one who installed it. We have a microwave and an oven combination unit and I had an issue with each one. With the oven bottom part, there was like a glue that was dripping between the glass. So it was something I didn't feel comfortable taking apart. And the other was with the microwave. When I turn it on, it would make a loud rumble noise. I filed a claim to American Home Shield online. They have a simple website wherein I'd just put in the information and American Home Shield would text me back right away. And then somebody would call me in a short period of time. The only time I had to speak with a claims agent was when we had a problem with the air conditioning unit. We were going back and forth about what was covered and what was not. The same thing happened with our pool heater but that was resolved.
The technicians for the oven part came, took apart the glass and cleaned it. Then for the microwave, it turned out to be a bad motor. So they ordered the part and when that came in, they installed it and everything's running fine since then. When we lived in Florida, we tried a couple other home warranties and they were terrible. So when I get something fixed, I recommend American Home Shield to others.

My current/old hot water heater was installed in 2006 and last weekend it died. American Home Shield sent a plumber out to assess the job. Later, American Home Shield told me I would need to pay $893 to the plumber out of my pocket - plus the $100 deductible to American Home Shield. The $893 was for a list of "extra stuff" that the plumber says I need, but I don't want. There was no way I was doing that.
So I called American Home Shield and asked about the "cash out" option where they give me the money and I can hire my own plumber. They would only give me $393. What? The cheapest hot water heaters at the local big box store cost $400 and up. Plus the fittings and hoses, plus labor. NOWHERE can I get a whole new hot water heater professionally installed for anywhere close to $393. And I believe that American Home Shield knows that. (They are just playing a game with my money).
So "Plan C" was that I would do it myself. I bought the hot water heater and all the supplies, installed it and it works great. My out of pocket cost was about $450 (my labor was free). I called American Home Shield to have them send me the $393 and they won't send it. They said I need to send them proof that the work was done 100% by a licensed plumber. So once again, I am hosed. AND they charged me the $100 for the plumber to come out and take a look, even though American Home Shield is not paying out a dime on my claim! Here is the bottom line: They make you pay a WHOLE LOT more out of pocket than what you sign up for - or they just don't pay you at all! #AHSRIPOFF

When I attempted to contact repair person they didn’t answer and their voicemail full. I called back AHS and waited 46 minutes on hold. They contacted repair person who finally called. He decided my repair was not urgent (my laundry room flooded from a stopped drain) but informed me if I wanted to make it urgent I needed to pay him more money. I call AHS again, waited an hour and a half this time on hold to be talked into keeping my contract and they would change service request to an emergency.
The next day no contact at all with service person. I end up calling my own plumber, paying out of pocket for repair then replacing two appliances due to water damage. I call AHS again today to cancel this warranty as it has so far been a waste of time and money and am belittled because I refuse to listen to them try to keep me by dangling a possible reimbursement in front of me. I inform them if reimbursement requires me to keep this policy then I have no desire to listen. I am then informed because I refuse to listen I have to pay an additional $45 to cancel.
You people already cost me water damage, money, stress and appliances and you want me to pay you more money to cancel a warranty that isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on? Then have the nerve to belittle me because I refuse to listen to you. Offer me reimbursement if I continue policy? You actually say if I want money I should listen. Come on! My response was if it requires me to keep this contract then absolutely no I do not want to listen, I do not want reimbursement I just want to cut my losses and cancel. But now you have to squeeze yet another $45 out of me. No I want this canceled. Period. I don’t want to pay yet more money out of pocket to you when you failed to live up to your claims. I don’t think I should be stuck paying for a useless warranty or pay to cancel when this warranty so clearly failed to live up to its own claims.

After the inspection of the heater, the contractor told me the tank has to be replaced and that he will make recommendation to AHS. Few days later when l did not hear from him, I called his office and spoke with a lady and she informed me that AHS has agreed to replace the water heater tank and there is going to be an additional out of pocket cost of $970.00. l told her she should email this to me and itemize what the out of pocket will comprise of with individual price. She sent the email on 11/28/2018 at 1.10 PM just with the additional total cost of $970.00.
The items were the following. 50 GALLON WATER HEATER REPLACEMENT WITH CODE UPGRADES & MODIFICATIONS: Water heater tank and installation cost (including parts & labor) – covered by American Home Shield policy. Code Upgrades Installation & Modifications (including parts & labor): 1. Install expansion tank. 2. Install gas drip leg, gas valve and gas flex. 3. Install ground wire/bonding. 4. Install water heater pan. 5. Modify vent pipe. 6. Modify hot and cold water supply lines. 7. Modify temperature and pressure line. Dispose old water heater (covered). Total non-covered cost to be paid by customer: $ 970.00.
I called their office and someone named Alex picked up the phone. l requested for the price of each item stated above as this was not provided to me in their earlier email. My wife also asked him if the upgrade he listed above was needed and if any kind of permit will be needed. Alex was so rude. He was angry and told us that "this is what you have to pay". He repeated this twice and then hung up. I called him right back with the same question. He said the upgrade was necessary and once again he hung up. All this happened on Wednesday 11/28/2018 and up till now the contractors have not called me. I have also been told that AHS has delivered the water heater tank replacement to the contractor but he has neither called or replaced by water heater. I have been without hot water for days.
I complained to AHS and informed them that I will like to have another contractor but I was told I have to pay another inspection fee and also pay the restocking fees for the heater tank that had already been delivered to the contractor. I spoke with a Marie with employee #: ** who also stated that I have no choice and that I have to work with the contractor. Marie then transferred me to her supervisor Ruth [employee ID #:**] who repeated the same thing. I told them I was at this point not ready to have the contractor come to my house as I had totally lost confidence in him. This is also for the protection of my family. I no longer trust his work. It is noteworthy also to state that I called in a second opinion and it was this new company who told me the water heater tank platform had to be changed due to severe damage and that if a new tank had been mounted on the old platform, the platform will give way and the water heater tank will collapse.
I was also advised that the AHS contractor should have drained the water heater tank to stop water leaking from the tank and flooding the garage. All he needed was water hose. The AHS contractor had earlier on turned off the water heater to stop the leakage but failed to drain the tank and so the leak had persisted. It has now been over a week that my family and I have been without hot water in the house. This is working untold hardship on us. I have attempted to call AHS again but one has to be on the phone for about an hour to get a hold of a representative.

I called in a few claims recently to American Home Shield, one for my dishwasher and the most recent one for my thermostat that wasn't working properly. I submitted the claims on the computer and I haven't had any problem navigating through their website, but the website's user-friendliness can be a little more specific. For example, the thermostat was not working on the air conditioner heater, and all it had was heat and air.
In terms of the timeframe on getting a contractor out, it's been slow. A lot of times, I have to call them instead of the contractor calling me to make an appointment. But the contractors have all been great. They're very friendly, helpful and they give me a solution to the problem. Now everything's working great. Having this warranty is very valuable because if there's an issue with something at home, it's a lot easier to call the warranty company and more economical than having to hire different repair people to come out. It's convenient and it saves me money.

I've had American Home Shield for seven years. I rented for a long time and most of my landlords had AHS and it seemed to work okay for them at any time we had a problem. So I stayed with them. When I submit a claim, I do it online and within a short period of time, I get a response. Usually, on the same day, the company calls and sets up an appointment.
The techs whom I worked with have been very courteous and understanding. They know what the problem is and if they have some options, they lay them out for me. The thing though is that AHS doesn't seem to use more local companies 'cause I live in Coachella Valley and sometimes, people come from Riverside, which is over an hour away. There are times you needed somebody out here right away, and they send somebody from an hour and a half away.
I actually had a problem a long time ago, when one time our air conditioning was out in the middle of the summer and I had to convince the person on the phone that it was an emergency. They said they’ll get somebody here in a couple of days. I told them to come right then. Other than that, I had an issue with my garage door opener. A guy came in and rewired and fixed things. However, I had a problem with it again two years later and the tech said he wasn’t gonna fix it because somebody had already redone something, and it was wrong. I don’t understand what the hell it was all about, but he ended up fixing it anyway.
Recently, my washing machine was going out and it's basically a computer issue with the machine. It just had to be reset. The problem had been going on for almost a year but then it started getting worse, so I just figured I better call it in. The techs who came knew exactly what the problem was. I told them that it was flashing a code on the face on the machine and they said I needed the panel pulled out, and everything will reset. It took them 20 minutes, tops. Since most of the time, they have the parts with them, they didn't have to order parts to fix the washing machine. So far, I'm happy with the quality of the repairs done by the techs sent out. They are always knowledgeable and quick with their job. Everything's done on time. As for AHS, it has paid off for me. I would recommend them.

There was an issue with my heater and it’s an old system so that happens every time. I get a flood and it’s muddy. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and the website was user-friendly. It’s also much easier than waiting on hold on the phone because they’re so busy. Plus when I put this claim in, the contractor contacted me the very next day and the service was scheduled within a couple days. So I was really happy with that service. The technician who came was also very professional. He asked some questions then he went to work and he worked very efficiently. He did a great job. However, he just fixed the heater. Unfortunately, the heater is associated with my hot water heater because it’s a baseboard hot water system with a natural gas boiler. And the hot water heater is older too so I’m concerned about it.
The technician pulled out the natural gas boiler with a line and they started to go out again. It’s not air tight and he did say something about that. He pointed out that I didn’t have an air shut-off valve. Unfortunately, the situation is one of those things where American Home Shield doesn’t usually replace the unit until it goes. That makes me nervous. It’s fine even if I have to pay for and install a replacement myself. I just wanna make sure that it’s not gonna void the warranty with the hot water system. But I’m having trouble getting to the customer service person to have that discussion. I can’t navigate their website or their phone prompt to ask this more general question either. But that’s the only thing I’ve been having trouble with.
Nonetheless, the warranty is very valuable. In one year, I’ve had an oven claim, needed the heater service and needed a washer repair. I became a property manager and I didn’t have the time to worry about my own repairs. That was why I got the Home Shield and although I was worried about not picking my contractors, everyone has been wonderful.
Hi, Danielle. Thank you for the positive feedback! We appreciate your patronage.

I was hearing a noise from one of my heat pumps. I had problems before and it turned out to be a compressor. It started to get a little cold down here in my neck of the woods and I was concerned that I’d be losing a compressor on one of my larger heat pumps before the winter started. I gave AHS a call and filed a service request. It was a very expeditious process. I said that I had a heat pump problem, they said okay and sent me a note on the same webpage that said someone would get back to me within 24 hours. Within 30 minutes, I had a call from Myers Comfort Specialists, the local vendor here, and set up an appointment for the next day. They came out and took care of me.
I’ve been using Myers Comfort Specialists for a couple of years. I have them come out in the spring and in the fall to do a tune up on some of my systems. They’re the ones that have done the maintenance for American Home Shield so far. They have been very reliable and responsive to me. Once they've fixed something, they've fixed it. I never get a second problem in the same way. The tech came out and ran the heat pump through the phases. My heat pumps are about 20 years old, but they’ve been well maintained over the years and they’re functioning properly. He found that the main contactor was severely pitted. It could have been shattering which might have been interrupting the power supply to the compressor itself. I’m an old electrician so I took a look at the points on this thing and he was right. It was pretty bad. He changed that out for me while he was there, and I haven’t had a problem with it since.
American Home Shield only covers about $10 per pound for Freon, but Freon goes for about $100 per pound. If you have a 10-pound system and it leaks, you’re on the hook for a big chunk of money. The little things you probably wouldn’t think about could come up and bite you. But the warranty has been good for the service and for the parts. I've had a pretty good experience with AHS and I’d recommend them.

We've been using American Home Shield for 15 years now and they are very thorough and responsive. Whenever we submit a claim to them, we either just call up a number or go online and they make it very simple. Each service call that we have through them is $100, no matter what the other cost is. Their contractors were very informative and good at what they were doing. The servicemen were always very knowledgeable.
When our furnace refused to come back on, the guy said there was nothing else they could do so they had to replace it. They put a whole new furnace in and I love it very much. Then a couple of years ago, the air conditioner went out, and AHS had to come in. At that time, it was $75 for a service call. They found out that they had to evacuate the whole system and replace it. The guy showed me the bill and it was $465, but I only had to pay $75. I pay 39 every month but it’s still a peace of mind because they come back out within a day to correct anything that's wrong.

American Home Shield’s claim submission works, but it's not the greatest thing. After submitting the claim, you don’t get any updates as to when the service would be provided or any notes of service. They don’t give you any notes as to what was done and what the next steps are. I’m having issues with one of the dampers upstairs, and the contractor that came was very professional, on time, and met all my expectations. He evaluated it and said the damper needed to be replaced, but apparently, it is not covered by AHS. I thought for sure that all my systems were covered, and I’m a little disappointed because it’s part of the heating system and it seems like it would be covered, but it isn't.
The claims experience with AHS is hit and miss, though some of it is not their fault. They don't do a good job of following up and repairing things in a timely manner. I have to be the middleman and handle the management piece of that in terms of contacting AHS as well as the vendor to try to get somebody to come out and get a resolution, which I don’t appreciate. They’re using my time and I feel that AHS should be doing a better job of following up with these claims and facilitating the management to make sure things would be done in a timely manner. They don’t seem to be very engaged.
Hello, Jessie. I apologize that you did not reach a resolution with our heat pump work order. A Social Media team member will be reaching out to you directly to discuss your concerns.

I called in my leaking faucet to AHS. The rep explained the problem and set up the appointment with the contractor. The contractor called me right away. It was a Friday and they came out on Monday. They were very polite and knowledgeable about what the problem was. First, one guy came out and looked at the problem. Then he had to call American Home Shield to get permission and to make sure it was covered, which took a while. He come back in after an hour and said it was covered.
He looked at the problem and gave me possible solutions to it. He had a faucet he could put in or he could go back to his place and get something else. He came back with another guy and showed me the faucet that he had, which wasn’t exactly what I had. I wanted a gooseneck one, but he said that in order to do that, it would have to be special ordered and it could take four weeks. With the leak under the sink, I needed to do something right away. I took the one that he had, even though it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. But that was okay. He gave me a choice and it was my decision.

My neighbor reported that my air conditioning was making a really loud noise and it sounded like there was a specific part that was going to go out. I had some issues with air conditioning before, so I asked All Pro Air, the contractor from AHS, to come out and check it. We've had very high temperatures in Bakersfield this summer and I didn’t want it to go out again while we were experiencing temperatures above 100. This was one of the fastest claims I've ever experienced, especially with air conditioning. I submitted it that evening after my neighbor had come over to tell me the problem and they came the following morning. I've had experiences where I was calling them and they were so busy that they couldn't come. But this time, when they called me and said that they were on their way, I told them that I had to make some changes so that I could go to work late and be here when they arrived.
They told me that the issue was exactly what my neighbor said except the problem was that there was no preventative maintenance in the plan. So until the unit goes out, they could't do anything about it. But the gentleman was really good in checking it out and he checked how many amps was involved. Part of the issue was that it's not operating efficiently, so it gets overheated, which can cause it not to turn on.
Luckily, we haven't really had a hot weather since then. I've turned the unit on several times and it continues to work. But the tech told me that he was gonna note it on there that he had identified that as an issue and that it's likely that it will go out in the future. This was an excellent experience for me and the young man was very knowledgeable. I have had instances where a previous company didn’t call me or when I'm calling them, they weren't responding, so I had to call American Home Shield then they got out there as quickly as possible.
I had another experience with the same air conditioning company. My AC also went out so I contacted them and left them repeated messages. But they didn’t get back to me, so I contacted American Home Shield. Apparently, the lady had to put the claim in. So that’s the one instance that I've had with them where someone failed to follow through and it was on American Home Shield’s side. So it hasn’t all been rosy, but I've been with AHS for many years and I've had an overall positive experience with them. I like that I can put in the request for service online and they send a confirmation then tell me who has been assigned as well as the company's number. They also tell me that if the tech doesn't reach me within two days, then contact AHS. But almost everyone has been really good about contacting me within that time period and setting up an appointment.
Hello, Blanca. I regret that you had that issue with the company not being responsive. Thank you for the overall positive feedback.

I had a bathroom that wasn’t working properly. It took three times for the plumber to come out and American Home Shield charged me $100 each time. It all happened within 20 days. I was in contact with American Home Shield regarding the charges and waiting online with them has been forever. Furthermore, you can’t get anybody on the phone. I was on hold for 20 to 45 minutes and then I get somebody that’s stupid. They’re not really sure what I’m talking about. They don’t speak good English because they’re probably in Hong Kong or the Philippines. They know nothing but what’s on their check-out sheet.
The techs who came here were alright but they seem to wanna come in, get out of there, and run onto the next guy. If the first technician would’ve looked at it a little bit further, he would’ve found one of the problems that the last one found. There has been multiple problems, and each problem was helping to make the problem worse. The last problem was there was a seal that wasn’t sealing right, and was replaced with another item. The plumbing issue took about six weeks to get fixed.

It took them about three weeks to order parts though but the guys that came to fix it were amazing, really nice and experienced -- not like in the past. Last time, about five months ago, my fridge broke and AHS sent a different company to fix the fridge and the guys were unprofessional. They didn’t even fix it. They broke it even more and we had to get a new fridge. They didn’t have too much of an experience and they were checking on their phone what to do.
This time this new company knew what they were doing and they did a good job. I was very impressed and they were better than all the companies that AHS has sent. Other companies have to come a few times and then never even solve the problem. But this company came once, diagnosed the issue and they knew what they had to order, and then they came the second time and they fixed it. Now, the stove is working. I would recommend AHS.

I submitted a claim over the phone with American Home Shield for my dishwasher, and I had an excellent interaction with their claims representative. A contractor came two days later. I bought two bottles to have it cleaned out. The two bottles cleaned some of it, but it didn’t clean all of it.
I also had a claim for the ice maker, and he noticed that there were pieces that were broken and he took pictures of it. When he came back, he took pictures and the claim was denied again. So, when I called AHS back, I let them know the person that came was very negative. So, they sent another company out. Elite came out and replaced the a tray in my freezer. So that works tremendously well. When I called about my dishwasher, they said the claim was denied. I’ve had a lot of things that have been replaced, from the garage door opener to the dishwasher, to a couple of washers and dryers. Everything has been right on to what was expected.
The contractor for the water heater has done great. But there was a plumber that AHS sent out who was not able to fix an issue right. There was also another one that we had for our central air who said they fixed it, but it still wasn’t fixed. And I’ve told AHS not to send them to my house again. AHS may not have the vendor that you are asking for, but they have other vendors that will do the same work that you can pick.
Things break all the time and you may not expect it. In an emergency situation, you need AHS and it’s a huge deal. For instance, this recent claim with $1,000 for after-hour service and the water heater, I only paid $76. That’s amazing and hard to believe, but it works. I've told several people about it and they’ve actually gone to the same home warranty and have gotten it.

Eight days later we called him and he refused to return our calls so we spent over an hour on hold with AHW only to be told that the contractor determined the stove "wasn't worth fixing". We were told that the repairs "needed to be researched".
Two weeks later we spent nearly two hours on hold and were told that the parts to fix the oven still "needed to be researched" and they would let us know in two days what the outcome is. It is now five days later and we haven't heard anything. The parts for this stove are readily available because we called the manufacturer ourselves and that's what we were told. We have filed a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner for our state and considering a personal lawsuit. I am shocked at this company and their business practices.

I have been an AHS customer for over six years. Over the past six years, I have utilized AHS on average twice a year for furnace repairs and appliance repairs. I had great experiences with both the service companies they partner with and AHS customer service, until now. This year, I contacted the company for a gas furnace issue with the unit making extremely loud noises and rust/soot flakes. There is clearly an issue based on the noise alone. I have had their service company to my house twice last week and both times the technicians agree that the unit should not make that loud noise. They had made NO repairs and continue to submit a report to AHS that states there is no mechanical failure.
I have called AHS 6 times (waited on hold for 1 hour each time, so wasted SIX HOURS on hold) only to be told by AHS the service company says no mechanical failure, so no issue. I have told them repeatedly based on our contract their definition of mechanical failure states: while turned on, the item should operate without causing damage, irregular sounds, smoke, etc. It failed the definition on the 2nd point yet they will not repair or replace the unit. I have now requested a second opinion from another company through their customer service (used AHS chat feature which was a good experience).
In the past, I would have (and have) recommended this company. The fact that I might actually need a replacement and have been given the runaround from AHS and the AHS partner has marred my experience with them and at this point would warn against using their services and research competing home warranty companies. I have spent over 11 hours in five days to resolve this issue and NOTHING has been resolved.

This was after 11 days of trying to get the contractor that AHS set up for me to call me back to re-schedule the service appointment! Finally after multiple calls to the contractor, they called back to re-schedule the appointment. But, once the contractor came out to the house, they did not repair anything!
They said they had to get authorization from AHS to fix a broken light switch! A week goes by and I don't hear anything from the contractor or AHS about the authorization or follow-up appointment. I log onto the AHS website and the status of the service request says "completed"! Now I'm on hold with AHS again to try to get in touch with a live person so that I can ask what is going on. So far, my experience with AHS is going horribly. They need to have more people pick up their phones and get better contractors who actually call you back after multiple phone calls.

I go online to submit claims with American Home Shield, and their website is user-friendly. I made a claim for our heater that was not working. The contractor figured out what was going on quickly, and fixed it, and let us know how much it was going to cost. It seems like there were issues that aren’t covered with our heating and AC unit. So, we're paying the service fee plus the monthly fee and the company. So, it seems to add up. American Home Shield could discover more of the issues that are more common, usually, like the refrigerant which is not covered. My understanding is that every time they come out, they're doing a service fee. Now, however, if there is an issue where it's the same thing, they will do a callback, but if it's an issue where they're not covering it, then you're spending money to keep having things fixed that’s not covered under the warranty.

I've used American Home Shield a couple times and I'm very happy with their service. We do claims digitally and then the company handles those calls. The experience I had this week was very good too. After I submit a claim, it says they would contact us within 24 business hours but this time, I did it on a Friday and I heard from them by Saturday. So I'm not gonna complain. Plus, the guy who came in was really good. He knew his stuff. The hot water heater had stopped working and it turned out that the thermocouple was melted. He fixed it and was outta here in an hour, and everything's fine now. All in all, American Home Shield is doing wonderful and I would tell others they should have the warranty as well.

When the disposal wasn't working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and had an awesome experience. I did it online and it was simple to do. AHS called me the next day and I got the email. The contractor came out fast, and they did a great job on it. It took them less than five minutes to fix the disposal.

My heat stopped working so I went to American Home Shield's website and submitted a claim. The website was very user-friendly. The contractor then came in less than a day and he was very nice and friendly. He told me what he was gonna do and what was wrong with the unit before he fixed it. Since the repair, the unit has been working great. It has been nice and warm. I find having an AHS warranty very valuable because if I didn't have it, I would've had to pay out of pocket for this repair. You should definitely sign up with American Home Shield because they're worth it.

Our garbage disposal was leaking and so I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. They responded quickly. It was a weekend then so we didn't have the same-day service, but we got the 24-hour response from the vendor who was our service provider. He was terrific. He was very polite, courteous, and he wore his little booties. He diagnosed the problem and repaired the unit immediately as he had the part with him. Our garbage disposal is no longer leaking.

The furnace sensor needed to be cleaned and American Home Shield handled it right away. I submitted the claim online and navigating their website was easy and painless. Then someone came out and fixed it. I really like this technician. He was super professional, and he spoke English. I understood him. For the past year, I've had three services and my last two were excellent but the other one was terrible.
I had a technician in the past that I had a huge problem with. Something was wrong with my refrigerator, and the guy came out to fix it. He pulled the fridge out so he could look at it and scratched my floor. I pointed out that he scratched my floor, but he just said “Oh,” and “Okay.” So I told him that I wanted him to indicate on the form that he scratched my floor. He replied that he couldn't do that. Then he called his boss, and all of a sudden, he said he didn’t scratch it. It was there.
I called his boss and his boss would never return my calls. I called American Home Shield and they said that was not right and that they would give me $100 service credit for it. It was like I didn’t have to pay for the service. It was okay, but my floor is still scratched. Then they told me that I could take it up with my insurance or try to get the money from the service people. But they wouldn’t return my call and they were saying they didn’t do it. So it became my word against this guy’s word. I was really upset with that, and bottomline, I still have the scratch in the floor.

I put in a service call request on the furnace with American Home Shield. AHS did the tracker on when the guy they sent out was supposed to show up, and he showed up exactly when he was expected. I saw his navigation on the phone, so I knew exactly where he was at. He came, looked at the furnace and said that it was working fine. However, with the air conditioner, he said it was a different story. He was very professional and told me that AHS is not gonna replace my air conditioner when it’s 20 degrees outside. I recommend AHS.

My central heat unit wasn't working and I thought the issue was just my thermostat, but it was a little bit more involved than that. The technician got it all fixed and was gone in a relatively short time though. He was good and experienced. I called AHS to submit the claim, but the system was too automated. I had to go through 30 minutes of back and forth with the system before I could talk to someone who could help me. But once I got to talk to someone and got everything going, everything went fine.

I've called American Home Shield a few times, and they've always been very professional. Then most recently I submitted a claim to them online because I didn't have any heat, and the claims process went fine. I got in touch with their contractor on a Tuesday and that afternoon they told me they would be out here on Wednesday or the next day. The young man that came was a very nice man and was very, very professional.
