July my air wasnt working. Turns out it was the blower in the furnace. After 8 days with no air it was working again. December I decide to turn on heater and not working. Called again. Another $75. Turns out the air company in July forgot to replace a part that let the furnace know it was lit. I called and requested a refund and was told they would research it... Here it's January and no call back and no refund. I will never recommend this company ever. Such poor customer service!

I am writing this while waiting on the line for representative. My home washer is broken and it’s been more than 3 weeks, contractor came in, diagnosed it, then nothing... absolutely nothing. I had to call again and again to check the status and what’s the next step. And every time I call there is wait of 1+ hour. I don’t know how they are Number 1 service provider, in my experience this is the pathetic service and experience I have ever got. And while waiting they just disconnected me. :(

My gas water heater broke down and has to be replaced. The swap has to be performed by Greenway, but this company only provides low quality gas water heaters. It seems that American Home Shield uses such companies with bad products so you can stay their customer forever. Product brake, you pay more to fix them. Back to my story, in addition, I had to pay out of pocket, $370 for modifications. I asked Greenway if they would consider better quality heaters, but was told that American Home Shield is to decide the brand of the heater. I called the American Home Shield and was told that it is up to Greenway.

At this point I knew all was a scam. I asked American Home Shield for cash out option, and was offered up to $445. What a scam? I had been their customer for 3 years (3 years x 12 months x $60= $2160). Given them a lot of money and could not rely on them for a decent gas heater. I was told by their associate, it is just a business. If you do not like it go away. Also, the American Home Shield charged me $120 for service fee, for what? For doing nothing. My advice, do not go with American Home Shield. They only collect money and when you need them they leave you out. In summation, after paying $ 2160 for 3 years, I will get only $325 ($445-$120).

I have been paying for this warranty close to 1 yr on a monthly basis. The beginning of December my heat completely goes out as it is 40 degrees. I have a 7yr old son and work from home mom. We started to smell a funny burning smell through the house. I contact AHS for an electrician. I pay 100.00. They came out and disconnected the HVAC and the smell stopped. They were nice enough to transfer the 100.00 to the HVAC. 3 days later they came. The guy stayed for 10 min then left. Never heard from him again. It is now close to Xmas. I call AHS.

The lady called the tech who says he hasn't put the claim in yet but says he will be replacing the entire unit. Cool! 2 more weeks go by. Never heard from this company. I called today and was told they will not cover anything. This has got to be the worst experience. They say it was not normal wear and tear. Then what is it??! I am canceling my account. By the way the rep hung up on me when I spoke about canceling the account. I will make it my primary purchase to tell everyone in my network to never do business with this company!!!

They agreed and said they would repay me the bill, of course they did not pay me back but on top of it they are charging ME $100 deductible for a service they never provided. Even though they said they would refund it, they didn't and now they are saying that they won't... THIEVES!!!

At the suggestion of my real estate agent, we signed up for a home warranty through AHS. On the first call, they sent someone who was unable to fix my refrigerator because he didn't know what brand it was (I put that info in the comments) - he is the reason they get 2 stars - he came back and fixed it as a favor, but wasn't technically authorized to do the work. The second call: our mini split AC wasn't working - they scheduled with a contractor who completely blew off the appointment, wasting an entire day of my husband's time.

When I called to complain, they INSISTED that I use the same unreliable individual. Well, that contractor eventually showed up (later than agreed upon), and basically told us that the thermostat was 'going' and that there was nothing he could do - we just had to turn the temperature down on the unit. In fairness, the unit did start to kick on - but our bills were significantly higher this past summer. He also hit our basketball hoop with his truck on the way out- he offered to pay, but my husband didn't want to bother with his incompetence any longer. We were then charged the service fee for nothing.

Today, we get a bill for our whole-house dehumidifier repair - when I consulted our home warranty...surprise - that's on the list of things they DON'T cover. I'm not sure why we keep using this service - so far they've been useless- it's $89.00/mo and I would have been better off if I just outright paid people to come fix the issues we have thus far had.

When my dryer broke down, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and the process was very smooth. The contractor was very polite and timely. They came out to fix it, but they needed to order a part. When they ordered the part, that particular part had been upgraded, so it didn’t fit the dryer. It’s like the part might have three prongs, and then the dryer only had two. They had to end up with replacing the dryer. It was a very courteous service. AHS settled the claim fast and delivered my dryer. Its performance has been excellent since they got it repaired. I’m glad I have American Home Shield. It has been a blessing to me. When things break down, I give them a call and they respond. The problem was solved.

Each time, I have called and needed assistance with service renewal or to create a service request for repairs, my calls has been answered promptly, professionally, and with follow-up calls. I've referred other homeowners to AHS. Some has used them and others have chosen other companies. I expect to continue to using AHS in the near future.

My heating element in my dryer went out, so I submitted a claim online. Their site is pretty simple, and the contractor who came out was great. He called me ahead of time. There was a little bit of water standing on the driveway because of all the rain we’ve had, but it was passable. So I called him up to come on up and come to the back door because that was where the laundry room is. And he came in, we chatted as he went through, and did his work. He took a picture of it to make sure he got all the wiring. He had the parts. He was there for 30 minutes and he was gone. He was amazing. If I ever have a problem, I want him back out. American Home Shield is much better than the previous company I had, so I'm very happy.

We had a bad experience with not only American Home Shield but with the contractor that they sent out, and American Home Shield continued to pass us around from person to person and gave us incorrect information and wrong telephone numbers repeatedly. We were without our furnace for six weeks and without heat in December, so that was significant. But we finally got to speak with someone and she took care of it. We ended up having to have another contractor come out, and then it was fixed within four days. We've had a few call-outs since then and everything has been great. I went online recently and submitted a claim to American Home Shield when we had a burner not working on our stove. They sent NorCal Repair Services and the tech who came out fixed the burner. He was very prompt, professional, explained what was wrong with it and, if it happened again, how to fix it in an easy way.

I’m a realtor and I sell home warranties as well. American Home Shield is one of the more expensive ones and I don't like that about them. They have one of the higher service fees, too. But otherwise, on a personal level, we have always been pleased with them. We have been with American Home Shield since we bought this house in 1998, so we’ve spent a lot of money keeping this warranty. We’ve also used it a number of times.

When we bought our house, it was two years old and our first claim back then was on the oven. Only being two years old, the heating element went out in the oven and you wouldn’t think something that new would suffer a problem like that, but we saw the value in the repair then. Our air conditioner has been replaced as well and they also came out when the hot water heater went. They also helped us when we had an issue with the washing machine, so it’s been good to have the warranty when a problem arose and we’re glad to have it. We will keep it.

Recently, we had an issue with our well pump. We submitted a claim with AHS and unfortunately, this happened on Saturday of Christmas weekend. We were on the phone for a while to speak to someone about the claim then they said that we could always go online, so we did that. Once we put the order in online, we quickly got a response by text message that a plumbing company had been assigned to us and that they would reach out to us within 24 hours. But the next thing I realized was it said within the next 24 business hours. That meant that Saturday & Sunday were not business days and Monday was Christmas, which meant that we were gonna go for days without water.

I called C&P, the plumbing company, and they said that they’d speak to a technician and see if they could get somebody out. But then they said that no technician was on duty that evening and that nobody would be working the next day since they’d be closed on Sunday. I reported all this back to American Home Shield and they already looked for other plumbing companies but everybody was closing down for the holiday. So, it wasn’t like AHS just dropped the ball on our laps and that was a good thing. Eventually, they told us that if we wanted to go outside and pay for the repair, they would reimburse us up to $1,500 but that we would still have to pay the $75 fee. That didn’t sit well with me.

So, we just decided to make the best of it over the weekend. We bought a gazillion gallons of water and we made it work. Then we found out that American Home Shield cancelled our request for service. So, we kinda went back and forth with them asking why they did that. That was the fly in the ointment and we were dismayed about it. I personally made sure to follow up with the plumbing company repeatedly to let them know that when they come back to work, we needed them, and I didn’t feel like that was out of line. But I don’t think American Home Shield was responsible for every last thing. And beyond that, C&P got in touch with us early in the morning the day after Christmas and they were right out. They also said they had a long line of people to see.

As it turned out, the problem was with our well pump motor. However, they couldn't do anything about it, so they wound up repairing the next day. They came to check it and make sure. So, someone else had to come the next day and we were still without water and it was Wednesday when we finally got it back. They had to replace the well pump motor and that was taken care of. We learned a lot from that experience and it was a good survival exercise. The problem was fixed and C&P's tech was very good. My husband was with him while this was going on and he learned a lot about the well system itself. C&P has serviced us before and we have never had an issue with them. The gentleman’s name was Jack and he founded C&P Plumbing. My husband really thought a lot of him and his knowledge.

My water source heat pump was no longer heating nor cooling so I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Their response was timely but American Home Shield identified a vendor who was unresponsive and when I eventually communicated with the vendor directly, they did not realize that their company had a contract with American Home Shield. They were unhappy about the pricing and I told them that it was between them and AHS. The first vendor was not expecting to get the assignment from AHS and was up to speed on what was to be expected of their terms. That frustrated me.

Then, Efficiency Air was sent. I have worked with them before and the three times they have been out, their service was very good. But on this occasion, I was low on Freon and so there may be a leak. The problem also existed a year ago and the contractor did not know if there was a leak or not but he also put some sealants into the gas mix to try to address if there was. The first repair was very complicated. He had to identify and obtain the part then, he came back very quickly the next day. So far, the heat pump is working great since the repair. I’m very satisfied with Efficiency Air and I recommend them to all of the homeowners in our condominium building. I also recommend that people get insurance like American Home Shield.

I was concerned with having stuff break down so I got American Home Shield warranty and I've had it for about a year and a half now. I’m used to doing things online so I usually file my claims online and it works well. I had a claim for my heater that quit blowing warm air and started blowing cold air. I went for a week without heat because of the holidays. A contractor came out yesterday and my heater was low on Freon. They had to add Freon to it and evidently, American Home Shield only covers $10 a unit of it. It was $40 so I had to pay $120. Other than that, Sears also came for my dryer.

So far, I've only submitted two claims with American Home Shield. I submitted the first claim on the computer and the most recent one, which was for a dishwasher repair, was filed over the phone. The automated claim over the phone was quick and a lot easier than the computer one. On the computer, there was a long wait time until I heard from the contractor that was assigned to the job. These automated phone system, when requesting a repair, is streamlined. I know that trying to speak with a customer service representative isn't always the easiest with wait times. But other than that, it has been a good experience so far.

The contractor that was sent out was phenomenal and the receptionist on behalf of the contracting company was extremely transparent. They called right away just to get general information about the products that I called about. They sent someone out for an initial assessment, and then followed up later that day letting me know that a needed part was to be ordered. It was diagnosed that the dishwasher needed a new drain pump. They called a couple days later, when the part arrived, to schedule. They were on time, professional and great. Since the repair, the dishwasher has been working how it should.

Having a warranty on your property is very valuable. It puts you at ease really because being a homeowner, and I’m relatively a new homeowner, it's a very worrisome thing to think something big will break and you won’t be able to pay for it. So having a warranty gives you a little extra security. One time, my AC was not coming on at all and I don’t live without AC. So I put in a claim online and it was fairly easy. The website was very user-friendly and it shot me out a vendor within 20 minutes. I called Express Heating & Air Conditioning Services and they were able to get me somebody out the next day, which is pretty unheard of. Plus he was on time and professional.

He asked me what the problem was and I told him. He took a look at the monitor downstairs but he said that was not it. Then he asked me where the attic was and he went up there. He checked that out and then the AC came back on. But he still went outside and checked the condenser and my Freon levels. He was very nice and the AC has been perfect since then.

I’m very dissatisfied right now. I have had American Home Shield for years and I was referring them to a lot of people. But my stuff started getting messed up for the last month or so, and I’m not gonna refer them anymore. The first contractor American Home Shield sent was Aaron and they were supposed to come out but there was a lot of different cancellations on their part. I was sitting here and I was not getting a call back. Then I would call or they would be calling to come after the time that they were scheduled.

One time, the schedule changed from 8:00 in the morning to 12:00 because the plumber said he had a basement that was flooded. It took precedence over my leak. Then it wasn’t rescheduled. The last time I talked with them, they called and gave me to another plumber. At that point, it had been a few weeks of me just trying to get a leak fixed in the sewage pipe from my toilet. I was getting ready to call to do the same thing with American Home Shield.

Reynolds Heating came today to finish the work that was supposed to be done. But I got a thing saying that their work had already been completed. The worse thing about that is that I had another heating company that came out. I had the leaky pipe and then the cylinder on my boiler that they replaced started leaking. Reynolds came out and said that they had to fix it but they had to do the whole kit. But you only get $1,500. The other company used $1,100 and Reynolds would get $400. I then had to give Reynolds $233 to fix the same stuff that the previous people had done. The previous people couldn't come back because American Home Shield wouldn’t send them back.

I’m very unhappy because I didn’t feel like I should’ve had to pay for a problem that a company had come out to fix. Just because another company came, American Home Shield treated it like a brand new claim. I also couldn't get through to American Home Shield to make any complaint to do anything. One time, I waited for about 35 minutes on the phone just to get through to a representative. But a representative actually called and left a message on my voicemail about me having to pay the $233.

The contractor from Lanthorn Construction & Plumbing came between the hours that they appointed. The first time they came, they just lit the pilot light and they stayed up there. The water got warm within 30 minutes. For the second time, however, they had to replace parts. AHS tried to send out a different contractor the second time, but I wanted the same company to come as before because I thought for work congruency’s sake. Still, the water has stayed hot ever since. So they had to send High Priority Plumbing to check if there was a plumbing problem. The guy that came out was professional, he knew what he was doing and quickly fixed the problem. The ice maker is now working well and I’m pretty happy with AHS.

I appreciate them. When I had a water leak under my sink, I called in to submit the claim and the experience was great. I got a call from Swat immediately and the contractor that came out was great as well. American Home Shield has sent plumbers out before and I really like to keep these guys. They were efficient and very professional, and they fixed the problem.

I usually submit my claims to American Home Shield online and they get out there within 24 hours. It's a very, very easy process. I haven't had any bad interactions with contractors since I've moved over to American Home Shield. The last contractor that showed up to check on the furnace was the best one that I've ever had. The only thing that I noticed with American Home Shield is that there are some things that are not covered in their contract, but I had with my previous home warranty company. An example of this is I had a spring break on a garage door. When I was in with my previous home warranty company, that was covered under warranty, but in America Home Shield's contract, it's not covered.

He went to somewhere else, and finally found it, and came back the next day, and put it in. He was amazing. It was just a fan so it was no big deal, but it's nice to have it working again. When I had a claim with AHS for my dishwasher, I submitted it online and it was very easy. The contractor that first came out said they needed to order parts, so they ordered parts. Then somebody came in and put them in. But when they did it blew a wiring harness so they needed to order another one, and then they couldn’t find one. After 30 days they authorized purchasing a new dishwasher. After describing my dishwasher I picked one that I liked and they would pay a certain amount and I would have to pay the balance or I could get cash. I chose the one that they recommended. It was almost identical, just a newer model of the one I had.

Other than that, I had to call a few times to get updates because they couldn’t find the part for the dishwasher. That was frustrating because I didn’t know what was going on. The other thing that I didn't know how to resolve was when they couldn’t find a replacement wiring harness, they didn’t cancel the request so the wiring harness got delivered after my new dishwasher was installed. Sears then tried to install it before I finally had to tell them no. Now I have all these parts and I need to know how to return those to somebody. All in all, the claims process started the middle of November and ended up the first week of January.

up the first week in the January maybe, something like that.

When they came the young guy wasn't familiar with the newer system, and he said something about condensation and clearing the pipes. But he did say that it was working fine.

He said if there's another issue, he has a partner that deals with my type of furnace and that they would come back free of charge if that happened again the first 90 days. Our heater wasn’t working in a 20-degree weather. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they made the process difficult. I called in and told them what was going on, and they told me somebody will be in contact with me within 24 hours. Not having heat in a 20-degree weather should have told them they should put somebody out here immediately. But it was two and a half days before a tech came out and fixed it. So, it was a long time to do with a 20-degree weather. But the tech was great. He had to do some troubleshooting. It was cold and he didn’t complain. He fixed the issue and everything turned out wonderfully.

Other than that, I want American Home Shield to be more upfront. If I call in and say I have a problem, they need to either tell me if it’s covered or not and not make me wait till a service man comes out, submit the claim, and they’d call me a few days later saying it’s not covered. That’s not okay. They should not prolong it because when things go wrong, it needs to get fixed immediately. I’ve had two service calls within the last few months, in my whole time with AHS, and the first one was a total failure on their part, and the second one was a total success. So, it reaffirmed me keeping up with them. I was ready to change plans with somebody else until my last experience.

I called American Home Shield and asked for a repairman for the garage door. Every time I press the buttons, the garage door wouldn’t go up. And if I went up, then I couldn’t get it back down, that I had to push it back down and then it wouldn’t go back up again. So, it was locked and it wouldn’t move at all. The claims rep that I talked to was professional and said that the contractor would call in 24 hours. The contractor called before that and made the appointment. They even came out on New Year’s Day to fix it, which I was really surprised that they would work on that day.

The repairman was very professional. He explained everything that he was doing. He told me what was wrong with the garage thing that they had to replace the whole railing system because the chains weren't moving. So, he explained it to me. After he finished, he suggested that I would get oil to oil the hinges, which I never knew about. He said it would make the garage door last longer. He oiled the hinges, and then I went on and purchased the oil for the hinges. If I ever had to have someone come back out for the garage, I would want him and his company to come back. I was very satisfied with them. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a while now, and this was the best experience out of all the contractors that ever came out.

The only problem that I ever had with American Home Shield was with the dryer. We had to go out and purchase a brand new dryer after all the time that the contractor came out and tried to fix it. They were never able to fix it and they came out about five times. I even had to purchase the tube that goes up underneath the house because they told me that was the problem. But evidently, that wasn’t the problem. I spent $800 for a brand new tube, but we still had to go purchase a brand new dryer. So, this was the only experience that I used American Home Shield that I wasn’t satisfied with.

He was very friendly and professional, and he asked me what was wrong with the garage door, and then he took a closer look at it and was able to describe the problem to me and what needed to be fixed on it. The springs were broken, something else on the side had snapped, and then I also had a new keypad thing set up. Everything’s been working since he left. It made the operations in my home easier. But it would’ve been helpful had they not told me that someone would be calling me because then I wouldn’t be waiting and I might have chosen another avenue. But once the contractor came out, everything was fine. Immediate Response Plumbing & Rooter Service called and said when they were coming, and they were there in that period of time. They were definitely professional and they took care of the problem right away. They changed out the thermostat and said if that doesn’t solve the issue, we would need to call back. We bought the house. Everything seemed to be fine, so we closed. It was September and we live in California, so the weather was somewhat good. But the minute I turned the heater on, I realized that it was blowing out cold air instead of hot air. So I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They charged me the $75 upfront and the tech they sent out got here three days later. He was an hour late. He got here at 7 o'clock pm on a Friday and he was here for a half hour. He took out the motor of the heating unit and he said that he had to order the parts, and that he would be back when it came in to finish the job. But I never heard anything ever again.

A week later, I called the contracting company directly and their rep said that the part was still on order. I waited another week and called, and she said the same thing. Then I got a call about five days later. She said that the part was in and asked if I would I be home, which I would be, and she gave me an eight-hour window. She called me two hours later and said that the tech would be coming just to drop off my old motor because they don't work on my type of furnace. When the tech came back out, however, it was a different guy. He just dropped off my old motor in my garage and he didn't put it back. He told me to call AHS to send somebody else out, which I did.

My furnace, however, has a three-speed motor, which not everybody knows how to work on. It's a 98% high-efficiency furnace, and the guy that was sent out wasn't certified to work on it so he couldn't fix it. When I tried to explain that to AHS, they wouldn't listen to me, and so I became very enraged. So long story short, I had no heat for three months. Nevertheless, AHS ended up replacing the entire heater. There were multiple things wrong with it and I had to come out of pocket.

So many things have gone wrong, and I don't really have patience anymore because it was the heater. It's all been bad from the time that I moved in and I've filed four claims in a row. My washing machine and pool pump went out. The toilet upstairs isn't working, there's a hole in my ceiling and the Sheetrock, and the plumber that came out from AHS was not good. I'm still dealing with the washing machine. The contractor seemed to be okay, and they're getting parts. But I never realized that I actually wash clothes every single day. I had the easiest experience, however, when I filed a claim for a spa issue. The motor was out and Arctic Blue came out. I told the gentleman that I have a pool as well. I believed the bearings were going out, but he said they were dead. He told me to order the motor and he would be back in a few days. The gentleman came at 3:00 on a Friday and by Monday, he was back and the motor was changed.

What AHS could do better, going forward, is start working with outfits that actually have good reviews and customer service because other than the last people who came and fixed the heater, every single person that AHS has sent out here have horrible reviews on Yelp. The people who fixed the heater were the only ones who had a good review.

Maybe I'm old school, but when you tell me that you're gonna be here in the window of four hours, like between 12:00 and 4:00, and you're not here at 4:00, then maybe I'm crazy because I expect either a call or a text saying, "Hey, I'm running behind." With the plumbing issue, I called and asked the rep if the contractor was coming or not. She said yes, but he was in traffic and was running late. It was 5 o’clock and somebody could have let me know. Then he arrived, and I asked him if he was gonna pull up the toilet and check the collar. He told me it wasn't called the collar. It was called the wax ring. He told me that I was argumentative and that he was going to leave. Then he flushed my toilet and left.

Everybody gets insurance for a reason but at that certain point, my time and my health are worth something too. When AHS let me be without heat during October, November and December, it was not a good thing. I pay them, so I expect them to take care of me. If I would have called the company, I wouldn't have waited three months. But I asked to speak to managers multiple times and not one ever called me back.

American Home Shield was great and we were grateful to have the insurance plan built in when we bought the house. If you have the option of having this as part of your agreement when you buy a home and if the homeowner will pay for it, which our homeowner did, it’s a great benefit. It gives you a year to every season and you can call them to fix anything that doesn’t work right. Recently, our furnace was cycling on and off. It would heat the house when needed but it was coming on randomly to blow cold air. AHS sent out the Valley people who said that it needed a new part. They ordered it and it took a week. Then, they came back and put it in. We also had a problem with the hot water heater and the contractor that AHS sent out did a good job. They replaced the part and now, we have hot water all the time.

We pay a fee when we use AHS and that’s fine. This is worth having someone come out because I’m willing to pay $75 for this. If they had to come out to fix our furnace, and they couldn’t, we would have gotten a new furnace. The same with the hot water heater and anything that’s covered. Ours just happened to cover everything so, it’s great. However, AHS would ask for a credit card so they could charge it once the person comes out.

I wasn’t comfortable with that because what if somebody comes out and they don’t really follow through, and yet, they charge AHS, who in turn, hits our credit card. Then, we never get the work done because somebody else drops the ball. Now, we would have to go and try to get our money back. We have to do the work disputing it. So, I told them no. I would pay for it after the work was done because it shouldn’t be an inconvenience for me. They were fine with it and so, after the work was done, we paid it. It’s just protecting your own life. I don’t need any more stress and it would just be a stressor to have to deal with.

They gave me a lot of information, taught me how to use it and what things I should look for. They even took the extra time to look over everything and then made sure I wouldn't have any other problem.

The home warranty can sometimes seem misleading. It feels like if something breaks or something goes wrong after you buy the house, it will be fixed or taken care of, like with insurance. But there are so many loopholes in the contract that it doesn't really feel like insurance. The heater was recalled and because of that, AHS won't do anything to fix it. So now, we don't have a heater. But I would still recommend American Home Shield.

They never called and they never said anything. It has been more than a month now and they could never help me. I called them two times and they just said that they needed authorization from the supervisor, then the manager. I said it was gonna take time and that it was fine, but I have not gotten a check in the mail. Airboss Mechanical came out for the second claim and each one of them was great. However, it was terrible when the refrigerator wasn't working properly. My child was diagnosed with ADHD, so I had his meds there. I let AHS know, but they avoided and they didn’t care about it.

I had a leak in the water line that supplies the water to the icemaker and the icemaker also was getting water in the gear mechanism. I also had an ice build-up in one of the drawers of my freezer that I couldn't seem to get to go away. I filed an online claim to American Home Shield and the process had been easy. It didn't ask for a ton of information and that was the only thing that I didn't especially like. You just pick and the system doesn't really go in and ask what's going on. I had a wiring issue with the thermostat six months ago and they sent out a plumber when it was actually an electrician that should've come out. So, that was delayed that way. If I'd be given a spot to explain what was happening, I would've gotten the right person the first time around.

The contractors, all three of them, have been great. However, the plumber couldn't do anything because it was for an electrician to take care of. It took the electrician guy quite a while to figure out what the issue was and had to snake in a wire and get approval from American Home Shield. Nonetheless, they did a great job. The appliance guy that came in for the fridge was fantastic too. He was gone in less than an hour and had to order a new icemaker. He came back and put that in. Once he got that, it took him 10 minutes. They've been very professional and they've done a good job.

Our doorbell was not working and we needed to get the locks rekeyed. We have a home warranty through American Home Shield and we reached out to them. We submitted the claim online and they sent an email at one point. They had a link and I just clicked that, and it was very easy. The contractor they sent was great. They were quick to respond, prompt and courteous. They called me quickly and it was easy to schedule times with them. The only thing in the whole process thus far was that there was an additional fee for the rekeying for locks that we do not have keys for and we didn’t receive those keys when we bought the house. So that was kind of frustrating that it wasn’t really communicated very clearly that there was a lockpick fee also.

My heating upstairs never worked from the time I moved into the home. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did everything automated but then I had issues with the program. I would have rather talked to someone so I can explain to them what was going on and then they could better direct me. I ended up calling the people who came out and explained the issue to them. They were friendly and knowledgeable. They went into the attic and the techs said I had a whole bunch of new parts. The system was fixed before we moved in, but it was disconnected so it never worked. They were done in 20 minutes and now the system is working fine.

Our microwave went out and American Home Shield replaced a part. But there was more to it. The sensor cool part that was kept went out again. A new company came out, checked it out and said, "No, it seems to be fine." They got it working and when they came out the second time, they found the problem. They've ordered the parts and they should be in this week. They're gonna come and replace those. That went on for about three weeks. So, we didn't have a microwave. It was inconvenient but it was not a major issue. The technicians were great. They were very friendly, very professional and really took their time to find the problem. I used AHS or another warranty when I was in California. And so far, the service here in Texas has been 100% better. AHS has been great. They followed up and I was very pleased. I was really hesitant about getting a warranty, but I'm really glad we did. It all worked out and I'd recommend AHS very much.

I've had American Home Shield for some time now, but I canceled on the 31st of December because I'm tired of the horrible service. It is always hard to get through any time I've called to use them. I'm not a person who wants to go on the internet and call. I like to do it the old way and get someone, however, I'm always on hold for 45 minutes or longer. It always has been like that, but I just dealt with it. The straw that broke the camel back for me was I called in and I asked the young lady that my doorbell was not working. When I'm inside my home, I don’t hear it ringing. I can't answer it and pick up. The rep said that they could send someone out, but I told her to hold on and that I needed to make sure that it was covered. She said that it was covered. She asked if I wanted to pay that time or 48 hours, and I said that I would pay that time.

When the tech came out, I answered the door. He called to say he was there because I don't hear the doorbell ringing inside. He stepped in and said that they don’t work on doorbells with an intercom. I said that I asked AHS, but he said that nobody works on that kind anymore and that it was old school. I told him to let me call another company and he left. I called AHS and I told the gentleman that I was upset that I had to wait around for the call and to find out that the insurance company was not covering the claim for the doorbell. I said that I was calling for a supervisor, but he said that there was no supervisor around that day. I also said that I needed to speak to someone because I should not have to pay a $75 trade fee and that when he goes back and listen, he would see that I asked the question.

He said, "Ma'am, it's in your policy. You should have gone back and looked at it." I said that I was not gonna pull out my policy and put glasses on and try to read through, and that is why I asked the question when I called. They were supposed to be educated when to say it is not covered. When they answered, they should have said that the doorbell in our house was not gonna be covered, but the young lady I spoke to said it was covered. The gentleman said no and that I had to pay the trade fee.

I hung up because they had a long wait and they said they would call me back through the computer. I put it in for them to call me back and when they ended up calling back, I told them I was on hold calling them back and I didn’t think that they were gonna actually call me back. I told the gentleman what I previously said and he said that if they were gonna waive the trade fee, there was nothing he can do. I said to him that they were trying to handle it instead of getting a supervisor and letting them listen to the message, so they can make the perfect decision to please me, the customer. I've been with AHS too long. I don’t use the service, but I pay.

I said, "And you're gonna tell me because this one mistake, it can't go further than me and you or the other gentleman?" I was pissed off and I said that I refuse that ** and that I was not gonna deal with it. He said that if I cursed again, he was gonna hang up. I said that he needed to understand that I was so upset and I disliked the service, but I kept the service with the company, but I was getting the wrong information. I also said that I felt like they were screwing me. I said again that I called and they told me that it was covered, but the tech walked in and immediately said it was not covered. To me, I was pimped so they can make money at the end of the year and it was ** up. Then, he hung up the phone.

I called back and that's when I let the service call me. When I ended up getting someone, I explained to him and he said there was nothing he can do. I said, "That's okay. It's something that I can do. Cancel the service. I pay you guys $600 a year. You wanna lose $600 a year to fight over the $75. If they listen to the system and see what happens, they would see that the young lady needed to be educated to listen and to look at the system to make sure that the question she was answering was correct.

I said that I would leave and that I would go with someone else and I would pay it down. At least, I would give someone else a fair chance. I couldn't stay with AHS as a company. When I ask them a question, they give me the wrong information, and it costs me money because they lie to me. They were not even gonna go back and listen. The case was just closed after two people. It was not worth my while and I wasn’t happy with the service anyway. Since they switched over to the new company, the service has been like **. I was glad it was being recorded so they can see. I told them that it was not about the money. I have money. I couldn't continue to pay for something that I haven't been happy with and they truly made me not happy after that, so I canceled. AHS sucks. They are losing a great customer and they need to know that. They get this because that's what they've been giving to me.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I like to call in. I don't like to do it online. The first time I talked to somebody about a toilet leak, I made an appointment, but then, I remember that I was leaving out on vacation. So I called back and talked to a second person. Although there was a little language barrier, we got through and they fixed me up. They made sure they let whoever's gonna come out know that I wasn't gonna be back until the afternoon of the 26th.

The day when the contractor was supposed to arrive, I called that morning and left a message. They called back in a different number. So, I had to call them back again and a lady answered the phone, and she got my appointment out the next day. And then when the contractor came, he called first and told me that he was in the area. He asked if it was okay for him to come over, which I said yeah. When he got here, he asked what was going on. I explained to him and took him to my bathroom, and he assessed the situation.

Once he found out what it was, he came and showed me what it was. Then he said he had to go out in the car to get approval from AHS to do the work. When he came back, he explained that AHS didn't cover the caulking and I would have to pay for that on my own if I wanted it. At that time, I've been sick for a week and a half, so I told him to go ahead and do the caulking. When he was done, he showed me some of the areas that whoever put the toilet in, there was some error.

But that was the first time I really had with the bowl part of the toilet, and I've been here for 14 years. He showed me which part he was gonna put in, then he went ahead and put it in. Then he caulked it. He explained how long I had to wait before I could actually sit on the toilet. And then I paid him. Since the repair, the toilet has been operating well. Although, it almost looks like it's wet down there, leaking out, and I touch to make sure it's not leaking. Other than that, the contractor gives you a two-hour window and you had to take off of work for all of that. But since the contractor came for us at the beginning, it was no problem.

The toilet paper won't flush without getting caught into the pipe. When the contractor came out, they said that the reason why there was evidently a pipe that was broken was that some tree roots have grown into the pipe. They told me what was going on, and that I gotta get American Home Shield. I called my own plumber and had to pay him $275 to snake the line and confirm what the contractor told me since they never confirm anything. I am gonna call them when I have time. They need to give me my damn money back since they didn't do anything for me.

When the first plumber came out, I told him that before he goes to that house, which is a rental property, I needed him to call me back so I could instruct him on everything that needs to be done. But he never called me. My tenants called back and said that he left an invoice, and the invoice couldn't be understood. They don't take the job seriously. All they care about is getting in and out. It's leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Even if it's not covered by AHS, I would think that the plumbers that came out would say, "Ma'am, this is not covered by American Home Shield. However, if you need this to be done, we can charge you." But they did nothing and left me hanging!

I'm paying for AHS so I called them. They put me on hold forever because I was trying to find out what was the insurance that I'm paying for going to replace. However, I'm thinking about canceling AHS because this is the second plumber that I had. Every time they came out, they told me the same thing, but nobody resolved anything. What is the point of me paying for somebody to come out and do nothing? Also, if the home warranty is not gonna cover what they say they would, then what's the point of having a home warranty? AHS almost seems like a racket. I don't need to pay them $50 a month for somebody to come out and unclog the drain. If I have a pipe that's broken, they should cover the pipe.

The first one never came out, and the second brought the burner. They were not supposed to buy it then. But the AHS reps are pretty good at what they’re doing.

Our washing machine made a lot of noise like it’s about ready to jump out the door so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I realized that our washer was 16 years old and I wanted to know if they would repair it or replace it. I was trying to get that out from AHS and the guy was really rude and nasty. From the time I've been been with AHS, that was the first time we ever dealt with something like that. Nevertheless, my interaction with the contractor was great. Since our washer was 16 1/2 years old, all he could do was look at it. He aid that he would go back to his shop to look for the part for the washing machine. It took almost a week before we got a call saying that they got the part.

Two guys were sent which made sense because they would have to take the washer out into the garage and break it all down just to put the motor in. Once they got finished with that, they said it was all done and that it should be good to go. After that day, we didn’t use it because we had to go through a laundromat to wash our clothes. We didn’t expect to use it until the next two or three days. When we got ready to use it, we noticed that it started out okay but going into the spin mode, it went back to where it left off, like it was about ready to jump out the door. It was so loud and I ended up having to call the Appliance Network back to let them know what we were dealing with.

The person that does all the service call from the contractor said that before they can come out, we needed to give AHS a call for a follow-up, and we did. The gentleman came out later that afternoon to take a look at it. When he looked at it, my wife told him that we were picking up some black stuff that was developing in the washing tub. So, they had to pull the tub out and noticed that there was a bolt that wasn’t holding the part that holds the actuator in place, that was why it was rumbling like that.

After looking at everything, the tech felt that the bolt kept coming loose regardless if he was able to tighten it. He said, in his professional opinion, it will keep coming loose because it was doing that from the very beginning, even when they were putting new parts on there, which he didn’t understand either. So, instead, they were gonna replace two things, something with the bolt and the new tub, and he hoped that would solve that. Coming from the Christmas holiday and the New Years holiday, we’ve been waiting for it for almost two weeks. Nonetheless, he called half an hour ago and set up an appointment to come out and replace the part for tomorrow, within 11:00 to 2:00.

I have been very happy with American Home Shield's service every time I've used them. Last week, our refrigerator was going out. AHS sent a repairman out that same week. He looked at the refrigerator and he provided a very nice service. But AHS can’t get parts for the refrigerator. We’re supposed to purchase a new one, send AHS the bill, and they’ll reimburse us. But we ran into the problem. The refrigerator we wanted to pick was too big for the cabinets so we have to go another route. We used AHS twice last year. After we sent them the receipt, they sent us a check within 10 days. I would recommend AHS to other people.

There was an issue with my water heater. I'd be in the shower and the water would go from one temperature, and then all of a sudden, it would get super hot. Then all of a sudden, it would get super cold. I submitted a claim online, the only way to do it. The website navigation is no big deal. Moreno Plumbing & Heating came out to do the service. They put in a new valve on top of my water heater, and it has been fine ever since. They were great and I’d give them a 10 every time. I’ve had them come out a couple times and it’s been the same guy. They do really well and I’m very happy with them.

I had American Home Shield warranty in my house in Arizona as well. But I would hate to have to call a plumber because when I was living there, I got ripped off by a plumber who charged me $500 to put a faucet in. Nevertheless, I’ve used American Home Shield a few times and I’ve always been very happy with them. The warranty is worth it and I have no complaint.

The contractor they sent was very good, quick and thorough. He was also very honest with us. We wanted him to put in a thermostat because we felt like the thermostat was old and not working properly. He said that he was not the cheapest because we're getting it from him, but they put in the very best as far as industrial type level. He also said that we could go and get one cheaper. But we had him go ahead and put it in then we paid for that part of it. We were very pleased with what he did. The heat pump is working well since then. We were pleased with American Home Shield compared to our last homeowner's warranty and I'd call them again.

In the past year, American Home Shield has improved on their response time when I submit a claim. I usually receive a call as soon as I submit an online request. When I submitted the claim for my leaking hot water heater, American Home Shield had somebody assigned, and the contractor called me the same day that I did the online service request. The water heater has to be replaced, and there was some concerns about American Home Shield not replacing our current 65-gallon tank. They would only replace it with a 50-gallon because the 65-gallon is considered commercial nowadays. So, that had my husband on the phone with American Home Shield for quite a while, trying to understand that and the different options and the cash out. That made me uncomfortable.

When the technician came to install the 50-gallon, I expressed to him my concerns about whether the 50-gallon was gonna be adequate or not. He mentioned that we could do an upgrade, and we were going to do the upgrade with the hybrid tank and pay the difference. But it wasn't exactly working out the way that he described. Instead, his office later called and said we had to pay the full amount and then wait for the cash out from American Home Shield. I wound up trying to get in touch with American Home Shield through the regular number to express my concerns again about the 50-gallon tank, and how the upgrade was going to work if I went that way. The rep was going to check with authorization and get back to me, but she never did.

I called American Home Shield again, and the person I talked to the second time said that she didn't go with authorization. Instead, she gave me the direct line to authorization, and that was the best thing because both women that I spoke with from the authorization department were wonderful. They cleared up something that I wished the tech had mentioned to me when I raised my concerns about the inadequacy of the 50-gallon tank. They said that American Home Shield always has this mixing valve installed with the tank installation, and they explained how that makes the 50-gallon tank serve as an 80-gallon, in a way.

With that information, I called the tech back today to say that we're fine with the 50-gallon. They said that we had to pay an extra $175. That's when I made my second call to American Home Shield's authorization department. I asked them to work with the technician because I shouldn't have to pay $175 because the technician should have told me about the mixing valve. The rep agreed and she worked it out, and I don't have to pay. The technician should be installing the tank tomorrow, with no additional out of pocket beyond the $200 I had to pay for the modification. It was good to have that direct contact with the authorization department. It made a big difference. I always tell people about the value of American Home Shield. It doesn't always work out smoothly, but in the long run, it's really convenient for us as homeowners to deal with the unexpected.

I had a water leak and it must have been running for a while. My water bill said I used 4,500 more gallons of water last month. I happened to hear it one morning. I kept hearing it and I went underneath the house. I walked toward the center of the house and found where all the water went to. It must’ve drained off another way where I couldn’t see it. I filed the claim with AHS online and navigating through the website was easy. The contractors came out faster than I thought. My step-son showed them what was going on, but they said they had to call back and do another report instead of fixing it right away.

The contractor came out last week and fixed the hot water line. It was underneath the floor, close to the bathroom. They had to replace 30 feet of galvanized pipe. When they turned the water back on, a lot of stuff, like gunk and dirt, came out of the sink and the faucet just quit. They wouldn’t fix it right then though. I called AHS and talked to somebody about having to come back out again. When the contractor discovered that the sink didn’t work, they should’ve called and got AHS to okay. They might have been able to put some air to it and blow it out or stop the faucet itself. Still, overall, the contractor and AHS did well.

There was a puddle underneath the washing machine so I called American Home Shield. They sent out an appliance tech who said the issue was not the washing machine but the drain and that I would need to call a plumber. So American Home Shield got a plumber to come out but one plumber quoted this really high price. American Home Shield sent out another plumbing company to get a quote and that was Beck Plumbing MTC. They came out and gave me a much lower quote. Then they went ahead and fixed the drain issue.

Making an initial claim with American Home Shield is pretty easy. I've done it online and on the phone with the automatic system. But when you try to call in to talk to somebody it’s very difficult. For the claim I had, someone had to convert it from an appliance issue to a plumbing issue, and that was a challenge. With one phone call I made, it took me 30 minutes to get a hold of one person but they couldn’t help. Then it was another 30 minutes to get a hold of somebody who could help with one of my issues. But I’ve also been trying to get a receipt from them and that rep couldn’t help me with that. So they transferred me someplace else and I was on hold for another 30 minutes. Then it went to voice mail and I haven’t heard back since. That was a frustrating phone call. They don’t have a chat function on their website and there’s no real way to email them apparently. It would be nice to be able to contact them more easily.

The contractors seemed fine though. Everybody was very cordial and friendly, and they seemed to know what they were doing. They would report back to Home Shield and once they've done that, the Home Shield people would call me and let me know what was going on. That has happened at least once or twice and those interactions went fine.

My wife and my daughter, and my brother-in-law when he came to visit, were getting cold symptoms, more of a cough, when the air kicked on. We put up with it for a little while and then, somebody said that we should check for mold. I went out and pulled the panel off and everything was covered with mold, dirt and corrosion. That was when we researched our American Home Shield policy since we needed to have somebody come because it's outside my area of expertise.

I called AHS and they had Integrity contact me. The contractor came out, did their inspection and said that it needed to be cleaned and that the coil needed to be pulled out. He gave an estimate to have it done. Apparently, it was not covered. It's gonna come out of my pocket so I might as well see how cheap I can get it done. We called another company to come out and look at it but they were more expensive than Integrity. So, we just called Integrity to do it and they're coming tomorrow morning.

We just moved into the house in July and we knew that the unit was old so it's very valuable to have a home warranty and that gave us an extra peace of mind. The seller purchased it the first year and my wife and I have already talked about extending that when the policy comes due in June. It's an extra safety net in case something goes wrong. At the very least, people should insists on a home warranty for the first year that they're in the house.

I don't think I have asked too much to get an accurate and detailed report so I can make my renter pay. Not only I was told to pay another $425 to replace the toilet, I have spent so much time and energy on this issue (I often held 45 minutes before I could talk to any staff at AHS). As a customer, I think this is totally unacceptable. September 1, 2018 we submitted a claim for our cook top gas range. I was impressed on how fast they sent someone to look into the matter, and that is that one star. Two contractors were sent to check. Both later assessed that our appliance is unrepairable, because of discontinued parts, and we would rather need an appliance replacement.

It's already New Year's Eve of 2019 and the matter remains unresolved. Calls after calls for three painful months, fearing that the gas range might eventually cause us bigger trouble, but all we get are promises that they will contact us to update on the action and progress of the claim but NOOO calls, neither emails was received. Each time we initiated the call, only to get the parting words of, "We are working on it, we will call you." December 26, the person I spoke to said she will forward the matter to the Appliance Purchasing Department, and instructed me to call after 2 days. Weekend passed, and so I called today, Dec 31, Appliance Purchasing Department told me that it was only last December 26 when they received the request. Whaaat???

After all these time wasted calling, waiting on hold, and expected that something is being done, it was "JUST" submitted??? And wait! There's more... Appliance Purchasing Department said that they still have yet to see and look if indeed there is really no parts available before they can get back to me "again". $973+ I paid for 2 years consecutive and this is the first time I filed a claim. I could have just used it to buy me my own brand new appliance. Sadly, I've been a willing victim, as I though they can provide me with peace of mind. That's what I thought!

I now realized I bought me instead an added very expensive stress for $973+, to deal with this so called "peace of mind" provider. Again, such a very expensive stress. I am hoping that AHS will improve on their process improvement. Because, clearly, the experience in the process we are going through right now can only mean NO MORE RENEWAL, and VERY BAD FEEDBACK. He ordered 2 parts for the washer, hoping that one of them would fix the issue. I scheduled a second repair appointment once the parts arrived at my home. He arrived on time for the 8:30 AM appointment, however said he did not have the correct tools to remove a bottom part of my washer. He left my home, and said he would be back later with the correct tool.

He kept calling and texting with excuses of a delay. He arrived back at my home @ 7:15 PM, and by 8:40 PM it was evident that he couldn't fix my washer. He was pounding on the appliance with a mallet, and ended it up causing further damage to my washer. It was then completely unusable for 2 weeks. AHS should stop using overseas call centers. Their calling service sucks. And it made me consider to go to another company. When my dryer started having an issue again, I had to call in because it was a re-repair. Their online process doesn’t give you that option. So if I submitted the claim online, I would've been charged again as a new thing. I spent two days trying to get a hold of AHS. I would wait on the phone all day because they would leave me on hold for at least 45 minutes every time and then they wouldn’t know what to do and would just hang up on me. It's very irritating.

Once I got a hold of AHS, they were able to send a contractor the next day. But I complained and asked to speak to a manager and I was transferred to somebody in the US. I told them what happened, and a manager said she would make a note. Other than that, the contractor came early and was professional. They did the job, and they cleaned up after themselves and then vacuumed out my dryer.

I've had nothing but great experience with American Home Shield. They’ve always done everything I've ever asked to do and they're very professional to deal with. I have an electric range claim and they came out. One of the burners wouldn't work properly and they replaced the whole burner part underneath. The technician did everything he said he was gonna do and cleaned up. The part had to be ordered, and he had to come back. I submitted the claim during the Christmas holiday and it took less than 10 days to get the problem fixed. It wasn’t that big of a deal. I had three other burners working. The tech came back on the 29th and repaired it, and it took about an hour. Everything is fine since the repair.

The very first day we were covered, our gas furnace decided not to work appropriately. So I gave American Home Shield a call, and a guy came out and replaced the fan motor. Submitting the claim online was very easy, and it took less than a day for Sierra Mechanical to get in contact with me. The first time the repair was scheduled, our power went out along with about a hundred other homes in the neighborhood. And five minutes later, the man pulled up in the driveway. So I really felt bad for him. Since he wasn’t able to diagnose, I opened a second ticket and then called Sierra the next day. They sent someone right out to take care of it. Since then, everything is perfect. If the service that we received from Sierra Mechanical is any indication as to how AHS handles their providers and the way their service is configured, then they have an excellent company.

We had a blockage coming up in our toilet and bathtub, and I thought it was our septic tank. So I called a man who came out and emptied it, but he said it was not the septic tank. The blockage is in the house. I paid for the septic tank problem then I called American Home Shield. It was the day before New Year’s Eve and because we’re elderly, the company said that they would be able to get us in before the end of the day, and I was grateful for that. I was so happy. The tech came out and saw what the problem was, as the septic tank man said, it was right there in the house. The plumber's name was Bob, and he cleared the problem right up. He was also nice and neat. After the repair, everything has been working perfectly.

I have one problem that has been going on for about a year now. I had another insurance policy to take care of a water heater. When I had the water heater problem, this other insurance company told me that if I could show proof that American Home Shield covered a water heater problem, they would refund me $200. I've tried calling American Home Shield for about 10 times telling them that I need a proof that I had coverage with them for water heater problem. The reps said they would email or text me the information, then I could submit it to the other insurance company. But I never got any help and I called everyone I possibly could.

Anyone that I got a hold of said that they would handle it and they would show that I've been a member of American Home Shield for many years and that my water heater was covered. Ultimately, the water heater was fixed by American Home Shield. But because I had the other insurance coverage, I would still like to get that $200 back.

Last summer, we had a terrible experience with the pool filter because they wouldn't put in a new pool filter because the bottom half rotted out. They couldn't get one anywhere in the state so it took us about four weeks. Our pool was down because they had to order it from Japan or somewhere. We weren't happy about that. When they put on the new bottom, then the top blew. Those were in stock but AHS could've just put a new one in and we could've been up and running in three or four days. We had our pool turned green and it was a big mess, but they didn't care because they don't have to cover any of that. We had to cover the cost of getting the pool back running.

Recently, I filed a claim for a heater in the house. Their claim process was easy and the contractor that came out was great. We are still having an issue though. He reset a switch and he thought that would work, and it didn't. He ordered a new switch and that still didn't work. The heater kept switching off. He was out here Friday with the new switch that did not work, so he is turning in a request to replace the heater unit. It has been the coldest weak of the year and so far, I'm just waiting for AHS to give the contractor a go-ahead. My warranty ran out in December 31st and I'm just waiting to see how they would treat us on the heater before I renew it again.

The people at American Home Shield and the service have been great. We had three separate problems at our house and the two repairs we've had done so far had been really good. The guys that came out were from Blue Star Plumbing and they were very nice, professional and fantastic. They fixed everything and they did a good job for us. While fixing the garbage disposal, however, they discovered another leak on the wall leading to the outside of the house. I had some mold on the wall that I couldn't see under the sink, and they helped me out. They could have just repaired our disposal and left and never told us about the other leak. We wouldn't have known about it, and yet Blue Star did us a favor.

We had to call American Home Shield again today because we have something clogged. We've had some problems with our laundry room and all these pipes are somewhat connected. The Blue Star people have been the only ones that I've met but now we got assigned with Bubba's Plumbing for this other job. I spoke to a contractor and they set up an appointment for Monday. Usually, my wife does all the appointment setting and then I'm there at the house when the contractors show up to work. We have to report each job to American Home Shield separately and we've evidently had to email each time.

You never know how people are gonna act, but the people that had come out from American Home Shield had been fantastic. The plumbers that worked in my house were great. So far, everybody that has come out and American Home Shield have been very prompt. If we needed something, the contractors came at a certain time and got the work done, and they cleaned up. The problems all happened in a month so it has been really weird, but our overall experience with American Home Shield has been fantastic. My wife and I have been very impressed and we've been very happy. I'm glad we have American Home Shield.

Then AHS had to reassign the job, but nobody still came. Beck Plumbing didn't come out and neither did the contractor before them, so we went without water for a week. But that was the only bad experience I've ever had with AHS. They kept trying hard to get contractors. It was over the holiday weekend, just before Christmas. Then we had to put the repair on hold and they had to come out after Christmas.

Finally, a contractor came and found out that the problem was due to a foundation leak. But we had to get a separate contract for that since that is not covered by the AHS warranty that we had. The contractor was amazing. The tech was excellent and wonderful, and told us what the challenge was and what to look for. We have used AHS for 10 years now and with every service call that we've had to put in, they've been responsive and everything has gotten repaired. I have recommended them to anybody else I know.

I had plumbing issues and called American Home Shield. The plumbing company, Beck Plumbing, called me and I told them everything that needed to get fixed. They sent a plumber out but he didn’t fix three things. He said that my dishwasher leaked but they didn’t do that and that I had to call an appliance company. He was also supposed to clean out two bathtub drains, but he only cleaned out one of them. He said the one in my master bath was fine, however, it was not draining so it was not fine. It had some kind of stoppage. Two hours later, it finally drained after a shower.

This plumber was a real piece of work. I told him that there are minerals blocking some of the water flow in my bathroom cold water line. The water doesn’t come out very good and it has got slower over the years. The plumber again told me that they didn’t do that and that AHS won't pay for it. He also said that he didn't have time for that. He was really grumpy and not very good at interacting with people, which was fine, but it was not a very pleasant experience with him. I called AHS later and asked, "Y'all don’t cover a water line that's coming in slow?" The rep was nice and explained to me that AHS doesn't cover incoming water issues and it's not on their seller's warranty. The rep also said that if I will have that plumber, that I request a referral to an appliance place, then there won't be another service charge. I asked the plumbing company if they could please do that, and that was the last I have heard of them.

I know AHS have gotten so big than 15 years ago. I used to call them in behalf of clients for service and it took a little while on hold, but not like now. Some of these contractors act like it is a big pain in the rear, but they are getting paid. This plumber that they sent out was like he was doing this for free, and that he didn’t have time. That person could have been a bit nicer, but he was not.

My experience with AHS has been fine and I'm satisfied with them. I understand their limits and what they're trying to work with. I also know when it changed to where we had to pay the service fee upfront. Everybody screamed and yelled about it, but that was fine. I worked at a real estate company, and we called AHS all the time. We use them exclusively and there is an hour wait just to get through to someone. That has been a gripe of everybody for years and I'm aware of that. Sometimes, there is a disconnection between the people AHS contacts with, such as the plumbers or air conditioning people.

The dryer broke and I initially submitted the claim with American Home Shield online, but when I didn’t get a resolution, I called them. The website navigation was okay, but it could be better. It’s easy to submit a claim on their website, but it’s hard to get follow-ups once you have an issue. The phone call to AHS sucks. It’s horrible because you wait at least 20 minutes to get in contact with someone, but once you get in contact with someone, everyone is very nice and helpful. My call required more than just the representatives’ attention and it was hard to escalate it to speak with a supervisor, but they were able to resolve it. I wanted to be able to speak to a supervisor because I haven’t had a working clothes dryer since the middle of December and it was frustrating for me.

Chesapeake Appliance stated that they came, but they didn’t. They also claimed that they contacted me, but they did not. I was charged for the initial visit, but I was not charged for the follow-up visit, and I wasn’t charged for the new company who came to eventually fix the problem. I found the person who initially came to be a bit diffident and very flippant. He said, “Oh, they’re not gonna fix that, so you’re gonna have to just wait for it to break.” He didn’t seem to care very much. The company was hard to reach.

I called and left several messages, and when I tried to follow up with them to get a follow-up appointment, their voicemail was full. Even when American Home Shield called them, their voicemail was full, so they were unable to reach them, which was how they gave me a new company to work with, which has been awesome since they reached out to me immediately once they got the claim. They sent me follow-up information after the tech came to my house and I felt very comfortable with them.

I don’t have a working dryer and when I called initially saying that something was wrong, that it was making a noise, I was told that they would not fix it until the dryer stopped working, which I think is ridiculous because we had six weeks notice that something was going wrong with the dryer. American Home Shield won’t fix it until it stops working completely, so I had to wait until the dryer broke. The company that they assigned me to wasn’t doing anything to make it better and I had to wait for them. With the holidays, I had to get another person to come out and now, I have to wait for the purchase order and wait for them to get it fixed. I’ve been a month without a dryer. I have three children and it’s winter, and I’m paying every month for service. I paid the service claim and I was willing to pay for whatever I needed to because I did not wanna have a situation where the dryer would stop working completely.

Every time I go away for a long-term trip, something happens in the house. Two years ago, we had a pipe leak that did substantial damage to the house. This year, the outside housing to the garbage disposal had cracked, so it was leaking water and the line had become backed up, so there was a stoppage. And there was an issue with the faucet that had been going on for a while that wasn’t taken care of on a previous visit from American Home Shield because the people there, I don’t think, knew what to do. They told me that the unit had to be replaced which it didn’t, apparently, but the issue still continued on. It had a leak to it and if you left it on the cold side, it would leak in off position. So, there was water on the ground when I got back and that was when I put in my American Home Shield claim.

Their process is amazingly easy to do online. It takes only a moment. You’re able to choose what issue it is and then you can go through and choose what are the primary issues within it. For instance, I chose plumbing and then I chose garbage disposal, then faucet and then stoppage. It was very easy for me to be able to choose everything and start the process on it.

I was really impressed and amazed with the contractor that came out. Within 10 minutes after I filed the claim, I was told who it was going to be. It was New Year’s Day so I expected to hear from them on the 2nd or the 3rd and I heard from them within 10 minutes on New Year’s Day. I was expecting to see him on a Thursday or Friday because things get backed up and he has his own things but he went ahead and made plans to see me the following day. He came within the specific time and he worked on my issues. He was professional and I really enjoyed working with him.

The service had been amazing. He replaced the garbage disposal and put in the Moen one which is better than the InSinkErator. He said the one that had the cracked housing on it was the best type there was and he had them on because I didn’t know that Moen made it. He did a whole bunch of plumbing that he thought could cause issues. He cleaned out the stoppage just fine and he fixed the faucet on it by replacing the cartridge. So, I don’t have to get rid of the whole entire faucet just like I thought I did, which is really cool because that saved me another $300.

He told AHS what he found, and it was either replace the faucet or replace the inner works. He ended up putting in new plastic cartridges. I was very satisfied with my experience with AHS.

AHS was provided when we purchased our house. I submitted a claim with them online for the two faucets and it went smoothly. I was contacted the next day, and a company was out there within a couple of days to repair them. One faucet had to be repaired, and the other one had to be replaced. A part had to be ordered for the replacement and that took a little while. But once it got in, the company they hired did a good job. When the faucet wasn't working, it was pretty annoying. It's the main kitchen faucet so washing dishes was difficult. Still, since it has been repaired, it has been fine.

However, I'm currently in a claim to have my furnace repaired and there has been a lot of runaround about the part being ordered. Now, I've been without heat for close to a week. Nobody has called to set up an appointment to come fix my furnace. So, I went from one extreme, where they did a really good job on the faucet, to now, where the furnace is dragging on and I still don't have heat.

The contractor offered to come the next day but I wasn’t gonna be home, so he came as soon as I was available. He arrived and he had to order parts. When the parts came in, he came out and installed them. He was excellent and I’ve referred friends to him already. Everything has been operating perfectly since the repair. Our refrigerator kept on leaking and we couldn’t find where the problem was. We called American Home Shield, and the first technician who came in ordered a part for the water filter because it wouldn’t come out the way that was supposed to, and so he fixed that. He then opened the back of the refrigerator and fixed some screws. But he didn't solve the problem at all, so my husband took a look at the refrigerator himself, and he found that there was a tray underneath that holds the water and there was a crack in it. We called AHS again and I mentioned the crack on the tray to the second guy that came out. He ordered us a new part for that. And then once he came in, he replaced it, and there hasn’t been a leak since. Having a warranty from AHS is very valuable because it had been handy a few times and I would recommend them because the guys were very efficient, and they were on-time in communication.

We couldn’t show the buyers that and I filed a claim with American Home Shield online. It was very easy to navigate online, instead of calling. The contractor called me the next day and said he would be on it between 12:00 to 1:00, but he had a cancellation, so he came early. He tried to fix the issue the first time but it was still leaking the next time. So, I had a recall submitted and he came and changed the whole pipe. He was professional and knew what he was doing. It was a good experience.

Since submitting the claim, it was completed in about four days because of the holidays in between. If it wasn’t that, then it would’ve been done in about two days. Once the repair was completed, we were back on the market. We have been with AHS for almost four years now and this company has been perfect with the way it has been going and the technicians they assign are professional and knowledgeable.

Right now, we’re in the process of having a claim and there’s a representative on it. I had three fans replaced, and I was to buy the fans. The understanding was that the contractor would contact AHS and I would pay for the fans. AHS would then issue me a check. This was in October and I never heard back from the contractor. So then I sent a letter to AHS' system being counsel general for the company, and they responded very quickly and had me in contact with a person. She called the contractor and they agreed to send a representative with a check, which was $392. He came out and wrote me a check for 160 bucks. So, I responded back to her telling her what had happened. Now I got a message on my board that they are going to issue me another check for the remainder. This was last week and I haven’t heard from them. These people are ridiculous. They don’t answer their phones. They put you on an answering machine and don’t return your calls. When I'm done, I’d highly recommend for AHS to get rid of this outfit.

I submitted another claim and it was simple, even for me who is not accustomed to using a computer. If I try to get on to the phone to submit the claim, I can't go through. I had very cordial interactions with the contractor company that came out. Initially, I thought there was a problem with the thermostat. They looked at the situation and helped me out with the thermostat so I understood what was going on. They inspected the unit and found a leak in the Freon. They went from there and inserted a new unit. They are very responsible and a very good company.

When the guy that AHS sent out came to fix the handle on the microwave, he broke the door and had to replace the whole door. It took a couple of weeks but they handled it. We also had a problem with the water heater. We didn't have any hot water for five days then AHS replaced the water heater.

Recently, there was an issue with the garbage disposal. When the tech came out to fix it, he came to find out that it was an electrical problem. So, AHS had to call somebody else out. My husband submitted this claim online then he had to call them back a couple of times because they double-charged him for it. But they handled it and made everything right. So my experience was fine and dandy. It always is. We've had AHS for as long as we've had the house, which is 15 years, and they've always done a good job. They're probably going to say it was resolved but it really wasn't. I bet all the good reviews on here are probably made up by them self. It's nothing like that fake TV ad with them acting like if something breaks they will just replace it. Save yourself from being scammed. Don't buy this worthless product.

Original review: Total waste of money. Called them one time for plumbing. They sent some lazy contractor that made up any excuse he could not do any work at all. Ended up having to call a real plumber. When my ac went out sent out a tech said I needed a cheap part that they would cover and Freon that they would only pay 10 dollars a pound for. I have to cover the rest. The Freon costs over 200 dollars a pound so it would end up costing me around 2000 just to fill it. It's a total rip off. When I bought the house the worthless program came with it. You're better off just saving the money and using it towards the repairs. They're not going to pay for anything anyway. It's a joke. I cant believe a place like this can stay in business scamming people like this but they do. One day there will be a class action lawsuit against them for fraud and I will be the first person to sign up.

This latest issue: the plumber came out 12/27 and around noon finished (unresolved issue), submitted his info to AHS from our driveway after we signed off on it, and said we would hear from AHS by the afternoon. We called Friday evening after waiting on hold 1.5 hours. They said that the report from the plumber was not submitted (I have heard this before on 2 previous calls).

After being on hold today for 30 minutes, they said that the contractor was not available until Monday, there was nothing in their system to show the results of the service call (even though we received 2 confirmation emails from AHS after the tech left) and they marked the call as COMPLETE on my account, yet we cannot use the shower until we hear about a resolution from AHS. The CS agent got irate, and my husband asked 3 times for a manager before he was transferred.

Earlier this year, it took 4 service calls and 3 months to fix what was a seal on the refrigerator door; 2 months to get the door of the microwave replaced (since they would not replace the $130 microwave), and over 1 month to replace the electronic board on the top of the washing machine - after they kept dispatching companies that told me personally they do not service Fisher & Paykal. I was told that by the local companies within 24 hours. AHS kept dispatching the call to the same company! I reported in detail to the Better Business Bureau today after reading the posts from current customers this week. I could relate to SEVERAL of their issues. I am not alone about this. OH - THEY ARE RAISING OUR MONTHLY RATE $10-$120 A YEAR.

One time, the associate put me on hold to inquire about the issue I called about and put me on hold for another 30 minutes! I hung up because I could not wait any longer.

Another time, I requested the callback feature (which by the way is not consistent when you dial their number) and they called back and said I was next to be serviced only to wait another 30 minutes! What's the point of using that feature if you're being put on hold again. Seriously, all the hundreds of dollars I spend each year for this is a waste of money because I've gotten nothing resolved. I could've bought a brand new appliance with the money I've put towards this company over the past two years. I regret signing up with them.

The heat didn’t come on and I thought it was the thermostat. I submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out Climate Express. The tech, Bob, looked at it and said that the problem was not in the thermostat but upstairs in the attic. When he went above the garage, he found a quick-disconnect where there might have had a short and melted the wire. Instead of having 220, I had 110 volts.

Bob was very professional and very helpful. It was 8:00 in the morning and he might have been here 8:01. This happened on a Monday after a weekend and the long holiday with Christmas. He had a couple of emergency calls but he was here on time, went straight to work, and approximately within a couple of minutes, diagnosed the problem, and got a quick-fix. He had to go out and buy another part because he did not have that part on his truck. But he configured and bypassed the quick-disconnect so that we had heat in the house and we were able to warm up. He was able to get us going without the part, which made absolute sense.

He asked if he could take a little extra time and we granted him some time. We had to go out and pick-up our granddaughter then get a few other things. And when he came back early in the afternoon, he replaced the final piece, made sure everything was hunky dory, and left. He was very pleasant and everything worked out fine. So, I have no qualms of asking for Bob again.

My experience submitting claims with AHS has been very good and I've never had a problem. People have always been very helpful. I've been very pleased with AHS. When our furnace went out, South Belt contacted us within a couple of hours. They were very quick to respond. The inspector came out last Thursday to inspect the work and everything was good. That was the second time that I have used them.

When the upstairs furnace had gone out in the fall, South Belt had also taken care of it. We requested them again because we were extremely pleased with them. They communicate with me and are very good to work with. They're really very respectful. They are also good at letting you know what the problem is and what it's going to take to repair it. They said that they would get in contact with AHS. They got in contact with AHS right away and got back with us quickly. Then AHS called us quickly. I would definitely recommend and have recommended AHS before.

We had a toilet that wouldn't stop refilling, so it needed a little pump replaced and it needed a new flapper. The garbage disposal also needed to be fixed. I filed the claim online, and the portal was very user-friendly. Then I was called within 24 hours, which was really convenient. I've had two plumbers come out, and they were both great. Everything's working great now. I'm happy.

I wasn’t very happy with my experience with American Home Shield. I called them about a water heater that was barely getting hot. Submitting a claim to them too long. I was on hold for almost two hours before I got an attendant to come and answer the phone. And once they finally answered the phone, I told them that I had lukewarm water and it took four days for them to come out. So for four days, I had lukewarm water. When they finally got out, they told me that since I did have lukewarm water, the water heater was still working. And since it’s still working, it’s not covered, even though it’s barely working. Until it stopped completely working, it’s not covered, which to me, is just ridiculous. So I ended up spending $75 to tell me that they were not gonna fix it and I ended up having to go buy a water heater. I just had the water heater installed yesterday.

I had a stoppage backup in my kitchen sink which I made a claim for online, and the contractor that came was terrible. SAP Plumbing never contacted me to set up a time. Supposedly, they send out notifications through email and through text message. However, when I called the rep, she told me that I was set up on the "Do not call list", and I honestly don't understand how that happened. For the miscommunication, I explained to her that I would like to be called to set up a time because they just made their own appointment time that I wasn't aware of. We rescheduled, but they never came out for the scheduled appointment time. When I called, they told me that the appointment time had been changed by them. Again, still no follow-up phone call or anything to see if that works for me.

I finally called and was told that the technician went to the wrong house. They said they were gonna reschedule it that evening, during the window of 5:00 to 7:00, and the technician showed up at 8:30. They did what they needed to do, and they found out that they needed to do more research. That called for us to schedule another appointment. That appointment was made for a Saturday and no one ever showed up for that appointment. Monday morning, I got an email that said, "Your appointment is scheduled for this day." Again, no phone call to see what time works for me. I told American Home Shield not to send these people again, and that's when they set it up with Beck. However, SAP showed up anyway, and I happened to be home so they were able to complete the camera process that we were waiting on. I have not heard anything back up after they conducted their process.

I found out from the technician that they exclusively do work for American Home Shield. I wouldn't want someone else to waste their time and money waiting for them. So far, having a warranty has not been valuable. It has cost me more money for all the time that I've had to take off work. People are better off keeping their money and making their own repairs. I still have a kitchen sink that I can't use. I've had to use paper plates or eat out. I don't have the luxury of being able to just cook and wash my dishes. At this point I'm gonna have to take legal action against someone because it's cost me more than what it's needed to, just because of someone's negligence.

I had a plumbing claim and I initiated it online and then followed up with a phone call. When I called American Home Shield back to let them know that it was an emergency, they told me that they put in an expedited order and then it has so many hours to find someone to take care of the service. I called 30 minutes before the time was up and AHS still hadn’t found anyone to do the service. I talked to two different agents and neither of them explained to me exactly what outside service was until I spoke to the third one. She told me that I had to pay for the service and that AHS has a list of people who I couldn't call, a list of people who weren’t on the website.

She wanted me to write down all of these people's names which made no sense to me because if AHS has a do not call list, then it should be on the website available to customers so that they don’t have to go through all of that, as well as what the policy is for using somebody outside, that customers are required to pay for the service and before that contractors can even initiate the service, they still have to call and get approval from American Home Shield which to me was just a little much to have to go through to do all of that.

Finally, when she called in multiple times, they were able to find the same person that they originally took the service call to. The contractor was available to come out on a Saturday, which was around 24 hours later and took care of the service which the amount was a bit lower than I had to go through in order for that to even transpire. To me, that should have been the first call that AHS made to see if they had an emergency service 'cause when I talked to that company, initially, they told me they did, but I couldn't initiate it because it was coming through American Home Shield.

The contractor was great. It was just American Home Shield who could do a little bit more on top of how they handle the situation 'cause with plumbing, some stuff couldn't wait three days for a plumber to come out. And when I spoke with them, I told them several times what the issue was. It happened during the holiday so, of course, a lot of people aren't working, and I understand that. But I waited until after Christmas to try and get it resolved and finally it got resolved. The service with American Home Shield was just a little not put together as much as it should have been. I dealt with them before on other services and I never had an issue. The AC guy, this was probably during the summer was a little smart mouth, but it wasn’t enough for me to go out and call about, 'cause some people just have smart mouths. His was a little smarter than what I would prefer, but it is what it is.

When I get online and request service from AHS, they get contractors out here right away. I'm very pleased with them. My sister has another warranty and it takes days or a week for their contractors to come out. She covers her home and our mother's home and she's not happy. I've told my sister and everybody else that has another home warranty to go with AHS.

My dishwasher went out in September. It was not draining. American Home Shield sent someone out that didn't do a good job. He didn't do anything. I put in another claim and AHS didn't charge me for it. They sent someone out that spent about two hours on the dishwasher and couldn't get it working. He said AHS will be getting in touch with me in a few days to give me a new dishwasher. And they did. It's installed and working great.

The second contractor that came out had been here before for other things that had happened in the house. He was great. I don't think all the people that AHS has are that great though. But as soon as I get back on and say the thing is still not working, they get someone out here and take care of the issue. On the Monday after my dishwasher went out, my dryer went out. They sent someone on a Friday and then on Monday, they had a guy here. He tore my dryer apart and fixed it. It's working great.

I hate the computer, but I couldn't get anybody on the phone from AHS so I almost have to do it online when I filed a claim for my dryer. But the contractor who came out seemed very knowledgeable. He explained that there was nothing wrong with the dryer. The vent was stuffed up so he moved the dryer and cleaned all the lint, and everything that had accumulated back there. He recommended someone to call and I called them and they were very prompt. They came the next day and cleaned out the vent. The dryer has worked fine since.

The claim was over a holiday so the contractor was able to come after three days. But I was satisfied. I had somebody else for a long time, and they got to where it was a week before they could get here. When they get here, they sent somebody who didn't know what the hell they were doing. So I went with American Home Shield. My range was also fixed through AHS. GE Appliance Service did it and they did a great job.

My heater would tick on and the house maintained at the same temperature, but it would tick off because it was on automatic, and then it would turn right back on within three or four seconds. It started to cycle on and off a lot and my daily usage of electrical kilowatt was becoming almost double. When the contractors that AHS sent out looked at it, they said that there were parts that were burned out and the heater was using way more amps just to keep it going.

The technicians were polite, nice, and informative. When they called in the next day, they said that they could come the same day, so that was awesome. They found the part that wasn’t working properly, and their supervisor told them to go ahead and replace it with a new one. I saw that the part was sealed in a plastic wrap when the tech took it out of the truck. So, it was a new part, and they installed it. So far, the house has maintained at a better temperature. I went online to look at the status of the power company, and it looks like less kilowatts being used every day now. So that’s been fixed.

It was pretty easy to submit the claim to AHS. I was pretty impressed. The only weird thing is that I get emails for advertisements with AHS to sign up, but I’m already signed up. I get more of the promotional junk email, so I had to go through a huge box of emails to find the one where I signed up. Other than that, everything has been fine.

And they got back to me the next day, which I was really surprised about. Everything was fantastic. The gentleman that came out was amazing. He thought at first, he’d have to go to the ceiling in the kitchen, but he was able to get out through the access point.

He came on Saturday. He was very professional, nice and personable. He noticed that there is a clog somewhere down the line, and that wasn’t on the claim. He explained that he couldn’t do that. So I actually have another claim out right now. The contractor is coming tomorrow to fix that. I can shower in my bathtub now. It’s just backing up. But there’s no burst pipe anymore, so that’s good.

When I bought the house, it was a one-year home warranty through American Shield. I was wondering if there is any way to extend that another year or two. I would be lost without this warranty, like I was not expecting to have a plumbing issue as soon as I moved in. And I spent all my savings on the down payment. So I would have been really out of luck. Absolutely go with this company.

Our washing machine was having problems again. The dispenser for the water and ice on the refrigerator wouldn’t work anymore. Also, our microwave oven blew a fuse. On October 20th, we called American Home Shield and they sent out Done Rite Appliance. They looked at the refrigerator and the microwave oven, then the washing machine. A week later, I got a text message from the tech asking me for the model number of the washing machine. So, he didn’t even write down the stuff when he was here. Recently, we found out that when they came out, they broke the valves partially open to the washing machine and didn’t say anything to anybody. It wasn’t leaking but it was internally broke partially open, so we weren’t getting any kind of flow into it on top of the pump being bad.

I called American Home Shield four different times and spoke to one person. Her name was Kelly and she had a Southern accent and I got hung up on. I tried back five times through a two-month span and each time after that, I got somebody from overseas and I couldn't understand them. I requested a supervisor every time and then I either got hung up on or told that the supervisor would call me back tomorrow but no supervisor called me back. Also, they would say that they sent the parts to the contractor. I would call the contractor and they would say that they haven't received the parts. It has been back and forth, back and forth.

Finally, I Google-searched them and found the email for the CEO of American Home Shield, so we emailed him. I told him all the problems we were having. Then finally, Paul, a representative from Arizona called us and got the ball rolling and since then, we’ve got the washing machine fixed. AHS couldn't fix the refrigerator, so they had to replace it. That just came today. AHS assigned Runyon Appliance and their techs are professional. When they took the washing machine apart, they found that Done Rite left it disconnected and one of their tools was inside there.

Also, when they were here in October to work on it, Done Rite left our refrigerator unplugged, then cracked the wall outlet behind the refrigerator because they just yanked it out. They didn’t even adjust the stoppers so it would roll. They just dragged it out, cracked the plate and broke the water valve. With the washing machine, they also left the pump disconnected but plugged in and they didn’t tell my wife that. So, my wife went to do a little laundry because the washing machine was semi-working and then it flooded the entire laundry room. I had to jump on top of the dryer to unplug it so nobody got electrocuted. This has been a nightmare.

The company that AHS contracted with, Done Rite Appliance, sucked. It was horrible. American Home Shield owned some of the blame too because for two months, I’ve been trying to get a hold of them and it took us emailing the CEO to get something to happen. Once the representative for Arizona got involved the next day after the email, everything has been moving. AHS has been doing everything in a timely manner to get stuff taken care of and has been very professional. But before that, I was very dissatisfied and I wouldn’t recommend them to anybody.

We had another issue before in July of 2018. On the 4th of July, my air conditioner went out and it was 98 degrees in my house for two days. I called American Home Shield and I looked on my warranty plan and the fan motor is something they cover. AHS told us that the contractor would be out here in two days but we couldn’t have two days. So, we ended up calling a company ourselves that came out the same day within two hours and they fixed it. It cost me over 400 bucks out of my pocket. AHS is doing great right now though. They’ve redeemed themselves in the last week and a half and we’ve used them one time before where they sent people out who were able to fix the issue.

One of my shower valves in the master bathroom was not working properly. It was stripped so no matter which way and how much I turned it, the water was still coming out. Then on the kids’ bathroom, there was an issue with the valve itself and it was pretty much stripped. Apparently, it needed a cartridge replaced. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out Still Waters Plumbing.

I own this house for nine years and I've had American Home Shield for the last year or so. Thus far, I'm very satisfied with them. I've had multiple home warranty companies and the service and quality has decreased. But ever since I've been with American Home Shield, they’ve been up to par. I like the fact that even if I have to call on a weekend, and I know that nobody would be available on a weekend, at least they portray the message to the home office, so I get a follow-up call the next available business day. Where I work at, for example, on Mondays, you could get very wrapped up with work. So if something happens over the weekend, I can call AHS and at least I put the message out there. I don’t forget about it on a Monday when I'm at work because, obviously, I'm not at home. Then I don't have to wait another day to call American Home Shield. So that’s something that is an increased benefit right there.

Also, a lot of times, I like to be able to speak with an agent. I'm computer-savvy but there are some things that sometimes I'd rather do over the phone than over the internet. But American Home Shield's hold time to get a hold of an agent has increased a little bit. Other than that, the options of being able to file a claim or even do a follow-up or a recall order through their website, is handy. Their website is user-friendly and it provides an option to be able to request the service when you are not able to get a hold of someone.

I also like the method of paying for the copay with American Home Shield. I have a credit card on file with them so when the people who come in to serve my house come, they just ask me to sign something and I don’t have to pull out a credit card. Sometimes I'm not able to be at home for the repair, so it's either my wife or my father-in-law or someone else. So it's not necessarily the method of payment that I wanna use to pay for the copay but the fact that they have that on file and it's charged once the service is completed directly through the method of payment on file, that is something very handy because I've had three other home warranties prior to American Home Shield and I ran into that problem. Some of them sometimes only took cash or checks and some of them only took credit cards. So it's handy in that volatile situation where you never know what they would take or how you could pay.

I’ve never had any problem with American Home Shield but yesterday, I was very disappointed. We're having some problem with water in the kitchen sink backing up and when the gentleman came, he said that they would have to have some sort of authorization from Home Shield because there was some issue with the pipe outside. I've been dealing with American Home Shield for over a year now and this is the second time someone has come out for this problem with the sink. It was fixed the first I called a couple of months ago. But it seems the water is backing up again. I said that to the technician. But he left at two o’clock and said someone would call me that day. Nobody has called me though.

On the other hand, I also had a serviceman in here for my toilet and he was excellent. So far, my experience in dealing with American Home Shield has been satisfactory. As a matter of fact, each time I have to place an order, they always tell me I’m not supposed to pay them. They take out $106 from my account two days after the service has been completed. In the case of my sink though, there has been no service done and there’s $106 that’s gonna come out of my checking account. Home Shield better not do that because nothing has been done nor have they called me back to tell me if it’s been authorized.

I was trying to call them yesterday and all I could get were recordings. So I don’t know how to get in touch with them where I can talk to a person. I’m getting very annoyed. I’m very disgusted because I can’t use the water in my kitchen. I still don’t have service in my kitchen and I can’t cook. I had problems submitting claims with American Home Shield because of the holidays. I called and the first people that came out had two names. Their card said Pipe Doctor but the name they gave me was another name. The guy who came out didn’t do a good job. I was still having leaky water. He left abruptly and I felt like it was my fault because I was glad that somebody had come to fix my leaky water, that when he said he was all done, I said, “Thank you and you have a merry Christmas and happy holidays” and walked him out the door.

When he left, I went to check on my water problem and there was water spewing out of my shower head. I called them back immediately and a child answered the phone. I called them again and they were gonna be off for the holidays. Also, after the guy left, I never heard from them. It was a common courtesy to call people back after they call and say that they’ve got continuous water coming out of their shower head.

So I called AHS and they said that they wouldn’t come back until the next week. Next week came and I called them back and said that I understood it was the holidays but I still had leaky water which was not good. They said if I wanted to have somebody else come out, they were gonna charge me another $100. I told them I wanted to talk to a manager or somebody because that was not right. First of all, the guy who came created a problem for me. I kept calling Pipe Doctor but they wouldn’t answer their phone. The people that came out had a problem and now, another problem had been created, which was not there to begin with.

So the whole holiday weekend, I had water leak. I said somebody would pay for my water usage ‘cause the water was leaking continually. And after I told AHS that I was gonna report them to the Better Business Bureau or call somebody else if they didn’t let me talk to their manager, the lady I was talking to said that the manager was busy and had other calls, but that they would send another company out, so that was satisfactory to me. SAP Home Repair Services was the second company to come out to fix our water faucet. The guy was very courteous and explained everything to me. He took out an old cassette from the shower handle which caused the leaking. Since then, everything has been working perfectly.

Overall, I would not recommend the first company because they were not good at all. Other people might be going through other problems and I would hate for them to go through what I had to go through. I never had a problem with American Home Shield until they sent this plumber out. But I was glad AHS didn’t charge me the extra $100 because it wasn’t my fault that the guy put in an old cartridge in there instead of a brand new one. That was poor work performance as far as I’m concerned. Nevertheless, I was happy with the second company's service and I would still continue with American Home Shield.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the telephone for my shower faucet that was leaking. I described what was wrong and they told me they'd get back with me. Within 20 minutes, I had the return email from them telling me who the contractor was and when they were going to contact me. The process was really quick and painless. ASAP Plumbing, the contractor that they sent, was great. The technician fixed the problem. He explained what he had to do, showed me how he replaced the shower faucet and tested it. It was all good.

I have had this coverage for two years since we bought our latest home. I also purchased a basic plan for our rental property. We have utilized it 3 times. Two of the times were for air conditioner issues. Covered no problem and relatively prompt, considering the time of year. We had to pay for refrigerant (read fine print), but all-in-all the cost was substantially lower than it could have been. The third issue was our pool heater, which needed to be replaced. This was a headache and took 1/3 of the pool season to get mostly resolved.

However, in the end we were CONTENT. Because of the product, it involved several different technicians to install it. Pool technicians, electricians, and HVAC. The two more expensive ones were covered, but we had to fight for the HVAC and electrical. Ultimately because of constant, and very long, calls we paid for the HVAC portion out of pocket. However again, the cost was substantially lower than it would have been overall. They are expensive. That is my biggest complaint and customer service can easily get confused, but is always polite once you get to talk with them.

I called in a claim for actually two toilets with blockage. To start was on hold to make claim over an hour. Was told a company would call to set up time to come. That never happened, days later I went online and saw GMI had just made an appointment without contacting me at all. I called AHS and again waited on hold over an hour to change appt due to conflict with another appt. Agent said no problem, GMI will call to reschedule. I stated, "Really? Because they never called before to make first appt."

Now a week has passed and on a Sunday I call (and yet again an hour wait on hold) because toilet in flooding bathroom from base, secondary damage which isn't covered. I was told the case would be expedited and get someone out as soon as possible. I keep explaining that I am a first time customer and I'm not liking the way things are going. In the time all this is happening I got one toilet unstopped on my own, but the one that backed up I still have issues with. Well Thursday afternoon 4 days after being put on the expedited status a technician came out from Plumbers Inc. Takes a look, checks and sees it's flushing now, explained I just plunged it about an hour ago. Technician states bolts are rusted and broken off and o-ring is bad. He replaces o-ring and states to do blots he must get authorization from AHS to continue. States I should hear from them soon whether or not it's covered.

I call one week later (an hour plus wait on hold) and talk with agent to find out all work is denied, period. Asked when was I going to be notified and agent stated, "The notes say they Left you a message yesterday" (no message is on either phone). I have stated, "I don't wish to be with this company any longer and want a Refund," I'm ignored. This was my first experience with this company. Was told it was the best, not in my opinion. I do not wish to do business with them again.
