American Home Shield is something that you need to have. They've helped out a lot, especially dealing with HVAC units. They've saved me a little bit of extra money. When you're dealing directly with the contractors coming to the home, a lot of times their prices inflated. When you cut that all off, you don’t have to worry about that.
When there was something wrong with my heat pump, I called American Home Shield because I was trying to schedule with the people that came up the first time. I spoke with a very personable rep and it was lovely. AHS' subcontractor emailed me within a day and was able to schedule an appointment three days later. My wife was here when the technician came and she didn’t have any problems at all. She said that the person was very helpful and pleasant. He told my wife what he was fixing and he also took a picture of the items.
Hi, Willie. Thank you for letting us know about your service experience. The HVAC system can lead to a bunch of headaches and I am pleased to know that we have handled your requests as they should have been.

We had American Home Shield send a contractor out to fix our kitchen faucet and it was very easy to submit the claim online. The contractors were very pleasant and since the repair, our kitchen faucet works perfectly. The only issue I've ever had with AHS was when my bathroom sink had a problem that couldn’t be resolved. It was a major problem and I was frustrated that I had to pay the $100 for them to come out for 30 seconds to say that they were sorry and that they couldn’t fix it. I wished there was someone to talk about it with or maybe get half of the price back.

There was a problem that we had repaired with the dryer, but the noise came back, so we called American Home Shield back. The service company that originally did the repair said they would send somebody out and they did. The tech checked the same back apart and said that it needed a brand-specific part. She wrote down a number on the thing and the part and she gave me the receipt.
When I didn’t hear back for two weeks, I called and left a message, but I didn’t hear back. I checked with the number they originally texted me and finally when I called a third time, I got them on the phone. The tech said that the warranty company had not approved it and that they couldn’t do the work. I was perplexed. I called American Home Shield and the operator said they would call the service person and find out what the problem was because they didn’t decline it. The company sent them something and it didn’t have enough explanation.
The dryer was making that noise and rattle and I couldn’t even use it. I had been using my neighbor’s. When the tech called back to schedule the service, she said that my warranty wouldn’t cover it. She also said that it was not a warranty item and they didn’t cover it if there was a noise in my washer. I said it was more than a noise. She asked if the heating element was still working and I said that I thought so, but I couldn’t use the washer when it was making the screeching and it sounded like something was scraping. It was worse than when the sound originally appeared.
She said that it was not an item that was covered by warranty and that they couldn't help me. They couldn't send somebody out. I said that they sent somebody out originally and they made whatever was happening worse, so she should at least take a look at it, but she said no. I called American Home Shield back and they sent the second service company. He came, took the part again, and put it together, and the noise was gone. The second contractor was great. It has been two weeks now since he was here and the dryer has been working fine. I still feel a little rumble, but I don’t care about that. It's drying and it’s not scraping. Whatever was scraping and making a very high sound is gone, so it’s good to go.
The experience with the other company was weird and bizarre. They wouldn’t even call back and it was almost like they had let us lapse and they just made up a story. It was very strange. In the past, I've also had my fridge and freezer serviced and the guy was excellent. I've had the dryer serviced and the washer too, and they were excellent. It was just hit or miss.
I've had some really good service people and some whopper bad ones with American Home Shield, and I don’t know if I’ll be renewing with them. We had an issue with the plumbing and one of the people they sent was a disaster. They caused a leak in our bathroom which totaled $1,600 to repair all the siding near our toilet because the toilet wasn’t filled properly. When you have things like that, I'm a little hesitant to have faith in the people they send initially. The bathroom thing bugged me. I thought AHS would try to help more and I was disappointed.
Good afternoon Laura,

Called to cancel my policy due to significant increase in monthly charge. A charge that was increased without notification. Placed on hold with periodic notification that my call was important however no one responded for 23 minutes. After explaining why I wanted to cancel I was told that I had to be transferred to the cancellation department. This transfer again put me on hold for another 7 minutes after which the original person returned to the line and indicated that she indeed was able to cancel my contract because the cancellation department was experiencing a high volume of calls.
Good morning Thomas,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience and the delay in service to speak with a representative and cancel your contract. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issues that occurred.

It has been 10 days, still no repair. We have been told 3 to 5 days for the third time. Still have not been able to speak to a supervisor. My husband is 70 years old and handicapped and it is very difficult to do without heat in a home for this length of time. My husband tried again this morning to contact you and after 30 minutes, we were disconnected. This is very disappointing and I am trying not to get so upset but when you are cold in your own home, it is not easy.

I was renting my home and had American Home Shield as "extra insurance" in case things needed repair. When my furnace died they sent one of their selected contractors to have a look. Nothing was happening in time, while my tenants were freezing. I had to pay for the new furnace and AHS provided no assistance. My furnace was covered by the contract, but they paid nothing. They made excuses and blamed the contractor (the one they selected). Bottom line - I felt cheated and AHS provided no help. The contract I has was useless.
Hello, Mark. I apologize that your rental home was not serviced as it should have been. A member of our Social Media team will be in direct contact for more information.

So far, American Home Shield has been helpful in terms of the price and what’s needed to be done. I filed a claim for my forced-air gas furnace over the phone. It’s easy to do that. The first time I called in, I got the automated system. But the most recent was with a live person. The contractor they sent out was willing to do what was needed to make the furnace work properly again. The furnace was back up and running after the first visit. But the second visit with a different contractor was much more insightful. There were more things pointed out that needed to be done to avoid these problems in the future. So there were things that could’ve also been said and done during the first visit and that really needed to be done then. Nonetheless, everything’s been working well and American Home Shield did a good job.
It’s definitely good to have American Home Shield for the first year any time you’re moving into a new home. I would recommend for anyone buying a home that if it’s brand new specs or if it’s an older home, to always push to get the American Home Shield for the first year. Then after that, they should really dive into whether it make sense for me or whether they should hire another company.

I had an electrical issue and I was very pleased with the response and professionalism of the technician that American Home Shield sent. He was also very diligent to make sure the repair was done correctly and timely. My only concern with American Home Shield is that when I go online to file a claim, I can only request one repair at a time. And this time I requested repair, it was $100 service fee. I prefer that there would be multiple services to a request, particularly, if there are minor repairs that could be done at the same time.

American Home Shield was great. I called in to submit my claim for my toilet that was clogged and backing up. The claims representative I spoke to gave me some insights that I didn't know about, and I was very happy. The contractor who came out did a great job. I didn't know it was the drainage pipe that was the problem. He had to clean it out outside. Some things had changed in the yard and I couldn't tell him where it was. He went around that and still unclogged the toilet. He was great, and he stayed until he got it. Before these two things that happened, I didn't really like using AHS, but they turned it around. I'm feeling 100% better with them.

American Home Shield has been wonderful with their response. They were efficient and we were satisfied. The dryer and washer stopped working on the same day. They were brand new when I purchased them, and they both didn’t work that night when my wife was doing the laundry. I call in my claims and the reps have been perfect. The contractors had to order parts, and it took about six days to get the parts.
There wasn’t a lot of clothes to be washed so the waiting period was okay. And they did come and fix it, so everything was okay. The warranty has been extremely important. We bought new appliances for the whole house, but we don’t know how long they’re gonna last. And with those emergencies, it’s good to know that you can just call and have somebody come and take care of it without meeting extreme expenses.

I call in the claims with American Home Shield and the lady reps on the other end are fantastic. They're really good and they get back to me. AHS could get more people on the phone. The waiting is hard, but that's normal when you're calling a service department. Also, everybody speaks English well, so I have no problem. The contractors that were sent were fine. They got right back to me as well and they gave me advance notice when they were coming. They were very good. I have been with AHS since August, and then things were breaking, so getting the policy was a perfect timing.
One time, AHS sent a guy to fix my refrigerator but the problem was more detailed than he realized. So they called another guy that specializes in the anti-freeze. Then that second guy solved the problem the very next day. He did a great job. I'm supposed to call the appliance man today. I'm getting my dishwasher replaced. AHS is very fair on that also and it's only gonna cost me $20 or $30 because I'm gonna upgrade to a different model.
My home upstate is also covered by AHS, and now, it's going through a guy upstate. But he just gave me a quote on how much it would be to repair the appliance, because he's not hired by AHS and AHS doesn't have a person in my area upstate. They told me to get the guy, and I got him. That was when I bought the machine many years ago. He's talking to AHS and giving them the part numbers needed. I don't know yet how that claim is gonna turn out because that was just opened, but I'm very satisfied with AHS. I'm glad I got the policy.

I called American Home Shield when their contractor came out to service my furnace. When I call them to make the claim and they talk to me, everybody's nice, very helpful, and I haven't had a problem so far. Their technicians are very professional and the quality of their work is high. I like this one much better than the one that used to do it. The one in the past gave us spiels, and when we really need them, you can even find them anymore. After the technician left, for some reason, the furnace was not heating. It was running, but its temperature was going down so I called them back to come on and check it, and they said they didn't find anything wrong. All they did was to tap on the pipe and it started working fine then.
I called AHS back because it started doing the same thing again. But I didn't even have them come out. I tried their technique, shut it off myself and turned it back on. It was working fine and it's still working fine so far. I haven't had any problem with the company itself, but there's something freaky with my thermostat. AHS is a good company and they've been good for me. It was something about their service, the one that serviced it. I've been with American Home Shield for quite a number of years now, and I'm planning to continue. I would highly recommend them.

The heater element in the dryer had gone out so I contacted American Home Shield to have it looked at and possibly replaced or repaired. When the contractor came out, he knew what was wrong with the dryer from my explanation of what had happened over the past couple of days. Then he was able to get the part from his warehouse and repair it, and it worked. The warranty is good to have. It saves you a little bit of money.

When submitting claims, I could talk to AHS' reps a little bit more and tell them what the problem when done via phone. Some of the contractors they've sent out were really good like this guy who put the right part in my water heater. He knew what he was doing, did the job really well, fixed the water heater and smiled. I also like a certain company for my pool. They've been here before and they know my pool so I know if I'm not here, I could trust them to be here to do the job. The only reason I keep AHS is for the pool.
Otherwise, I'd get rid of them 'cause there are some that don't do everything they should and doesn't even give their names when they walk in. Some also forget to bring their tools along so I had to give them mine to get anything done. I had a plumbing problem in one of the bathrooms. I bought the whole kit myself to put it in, and the contractor would only put a washer in ‘cause American Home Shield told him all he could do is minimal. So, after about six months, it started leaking again. I like things fixed like everybody else.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

The back shower that we had was working really slowly and then a day or so after we moved in, it completely blocked up and would not drain at all. I tried a bunch of different things. I used a chemical cleaner to try and help drain it. Also, I tried to use a hand snake, but it couldn’t get it to go. The next best thing I could do was call a plumber through American Home Shield. I called AHS and the person they sent over was really professional.
He asked me questions about it, trying to help gauge what exactly was going on with the pipes. He eventually just used an electronic snake for about 20 minutes and he said no hair or anything came up. His take was that when the work was being done on the house, either painters or construction workers were washing their tools in the shower instead of cleaning them outside until that clogged the drain with paints and all kinds of stuff. He got the job done really well and it has been running even better than it did when I looked at the house originally.

I called back today to reopen the claim and I was on hold for an hour for that. In fact, I submitted that claim online initially even though I would rather submit claims by calling. It just takes too long to be on hold. Also, when American Home Shield took the service fee out of my checking account, it was a couple of days before the contractor even came out to do the service call. I don’t think that that’s right. They should wait until the service call has been completed.

I have American Home Shield for a few years now. I had their warranty at my last home and transferred it over here. They were good up until the last problem I had. My heater wasn’t working and they sent someone. The heater is called the package unit and it is a heater and air conditioner in one. I didn’t know exactly what was wrong with it but the guy seemed to get it going. He said that it was fixed but when I came home, it was not. It was hot for half an hour in my home but after that, it was cold again. I called them back and they said that it was over a $2,000 fix and that they had to wait for American Home Shield to approve it.
I called American Home Shield and they said that they were gonna get back to me and that they haven’t received the report from the company yet. They were blaming each other on why it was not getting fixed and I’ve been going back and forth with them the last week. I made the call early December and they came out on December 11th, but it is still not fixed until now.
Before that, my issues were mostly plumbing issues and it would always be small. Something would get clogged and I’d call American Home Shield, then they would come and unclog it. I also had one heater issue two years ago and it was fixed right away. However, with the recent heater issue, AHS is probably going with a new company. It looked like they opened the unit up and put a lighter on it so that it could go. If I wanted to heat my house, I could stay up there with a lighter but that is not something I wanna do. That was what the guy did and just left.
I usually submit my claims online and this is the most phone calls I’ve had with AHS. This is now a major issue, although it would be different if they said that they couldn't fix it. They are not responding at all and I just keep getting the runaround. They could at least be straightforward in saying that whatever I paid for doesn’t cover whatever I’m trying to get. Every other time, AHS have come through. But this is the first time that they are not coming through and are ignoring the situation.

They fixed the unit before and it was working fine, then it stopped. So, they were coming back out and I wasn't charged another $75 because it was with the same occurrence.
So far, all the contractors that AHS sent out were really good, except for the one time when I was having an electrical problem with the air conditioner. They sent the one company out that fixed it but it didn't work. They had to come back out again a second time and fix it, but still it didn't work. That was at the end of the summer. Then the next year, the air conditioning did the same thing. They came out and fixed it for several times then the one company that they've been sending at one point said that they were not going back out there anymore. But I told them that they had to. So, that became a real problem with that company that was dealing with the air conditioning.
If AHS would look back in the history where one company has been taking care of something that's been a repetitive issue, they need to keep sending that same company. Because what I ran into was the one company was telling me I needed a new air conditioning unit then the next company they sent when it failed the third time said that since they didn't work on it the first time, they couldn't verify if I was with the same company and they gave me the runaround. So, keeping a log of what companies are sent and trying to keep some continuity with that would be nice. Other than that, I've recommended people to AHS. I told them that AHS always helps me out and that their reps were always courteous. You just really need to keep up with which contractors don't do well for you then let them know and they'll get you another contractor.

I contacted American Home Shield for my two commodes in my guest bathroom and in my master bedroom. They would steadily run and you just work with the handle. The fixtures were very old and were probably in at the beginning when the house was built in 2005. They needed to be replaced. American Home Shield is always on it with the people that they contract with and some of them are very good. They told me who was gonna do the work. The technicians came right on out the same day when I got in touch with AHS and they got right on it. They were very cordial.

American Home Shield doesn't hire the best companies to resolve home repairs. In the last couple of months, it seems that the issues are never resolved the first time. The contractors seem to have to come back out at least a second time to look at the issue again and fix it. I’m still having an issue with my plumbing in the bathtub, which has been going on since December. Today was the third visit from the contractor that they use, High Priority Plumbing, and the issue is still unresolved. That's frustrating because the work that they're doing is impacting the work that I would have to have on my home by my insurance company. Until the plumbing issue is resolved, it doesn’t make sense to tear up my hardwood floors or the ceiling where the leak is coming from because a week or two months later, the plumbing issues may still come up.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for a leak in the water pipe in the ceiling of the basement. This was kind of an emergency because I had water coming down to my light fixtures in my basement that has just been completely remodeled, with a brand-new carpet. AHS gave me to Budget and I was then able to call Budget and tell them what was going on. They said they had somebody in the area and he was working that time, but they would get him out to me next. That was really helpful and I really appreciated that, but that reflects more on Budget probably than it does on AHS.
The Budget contractor that was sent out was very quick, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. He did a great job. I've had AHS for 20 years and that service call was the most positive experience I've had with them. I think I was just lucky that a contractor was here within a couple of hours because other times, AHS gets back to me within 24 hours. It has changed over the years on how long it was supposed to be. Some of the reps I talk to, however, are rude. They assign a contractor to come out even though I've said that I'm dissatisfied with that person. I have people from a heating and cooling company that does the maintenance of my unit, so I'd like them to come out. But the AHS reps said they just chose and they didn't have anything.
One time I looked up Better Business Bureau markings on a contractor and they have a very poor rating, so I didn't want them. But AHS said they do their own rating and they cannot change it once they've told me who it is. But that sounded like that’s not true. If it is, then it is their computer program that won't let them alter because that was before they've actually given me the name, but the person hasn't been contacted yet. Other times, the AHS reps have been efficient at sending out the request to the contracting agency. But other times, I've called several hours later and they haven't gotten it yet and there was never a request.
We always have people go back to where they were, and I complained about that. But with AHS, I never get to say who I want. After I had another person out for air conditioning four times within a month, the next time I called AHS, I said I'd like the contractor to be different. Originally, AHS said no. But they agreed eventually, and the email I got was with a different name. They gave me Budget, which was great, but I didn't get to say that I wanted Budget and AHS doesn't wait for a request. If I say, "Here's what my problem is," they’ll say, "What's the nature of your problem?" That is why I submit claims on the phone. Otherwise, there are no ways to fill in the information on the issue. If AHS happens to plug somebody that I’m not happy with, that's too bad because they cannot change it. It's very frustrating.
I got divorced and I live alone. This is a different house, so it's a different policy. But it is the same things with AHS, apparently, and I like a little respect. I pay my $55 every less than a month and I'm not somebody that calls and complains about things a lot, but I like to feel that I'm the important part of this unit, not that American Home Shield is the most important part of this unit. The only reason that I keep the AHS warranty is because I've been here in this house for 13 years and I know things are gonna start breaking down. I paid all that money every blasted month and several years in a row, there was no claim. If I stop with AHS now, it will seem like I just threw away all of that money. The impression that somebody gets with AHS is pretty consistent, however. AHS doesn't give a damn. They're trying to think of ways where they can get out of helping you, and they don't care whether you're happy with it.
There was one AHS rep who was outrageously rude and I somehow tried to make a complaint about that. She wouldn't change anything. Still, other reps have been very nice and said that they were sorry that that has happened, and that they would send somebody out, that kind of thing. With the reps at AHS, it's 50/50 at best. It depends on who you get. There's a good chance that it's a rep that you won't like, that treats you like, "What are you doing calling us?"

We have a salt generator pool and the motor and the cell went out. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the guy from Varner Spa & Pool LLC was out the next day. He was prompt and he did a really good job. It was resolved and the pool stuff was great. We had them before when we first bought the house and the Polaris motor wasn't working. He came out and did that. So, we've had him three times and he has been good. But we had an issue with the refrigerator that took five months to resolve. It was a very bad experience. If that had been my only experience with AHS this year, I wouldn't have renewed my contract. But because of the ones with the Varner and when we had to have somebody come out and do something with the heat pump which were all good, I renewed it for next year.

I had a couple of issues recently and one of them was a clogged or leaky drain. AHS sent someone out to repair it and he did really well. Then I had an issue with my refrigerator. I submitted a claim online then I talked to one guy. I asked him a question and he answered that for me. Then he said that the contractor would be out to repair it. But the problem with American Home Shield is, you have no access to them. You have to wait and when you call them, you're put on hold and you may sit there for an hour or an hour and a half before you talk to anybody. I also don't like the time that it takes for AHS to make up their mind on what they're gonna do. This has been a long repair and I've been without my refrigerator since before Thanksgiving.
But AHS has gotten in touch with me about it. The first repair person that they sent out was from Galloway Plumbing and he was the one that really slowed this things down. It was a disaster. That guy came out, opened it up, looked at it, and said that he didn't know what was wrong with it. He said that it froze up and needed a defrost kit. He said he'd have to order the part and he would be back. When he came back, he put it in and said that everything should be okay. But the next morning, it was doing the same thing. It only cools in the bottom half of the refrigerator and the freezer.
So, I called him the very next morning and he told me that he needed to get a hold of AHS and see what they wanted him to do. Then he said he'd get back with me. This happened on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and I waited for his call Finally, I called and got his answering machine. I told him that I gotta go to town and asked him to call and let me know if he was coming or not. But I never heard from him. So, I went through Thanksgiving without a refrigerator. This guy's name was Allen and that Monday morning, I called him again bright and early. I told him who I was and that the refrigerator still wasn't working. He said that he knew me and that I bugged him all weekend long over the holidays. He also said that it was a holiday and he didn't answer his phone on a holiday to spend time with his family. But I told him that I never talked to him and I just left him a message on Wednesday, so I didn't bug him.
Then, AHS sent another guy out for a second opinion the day before yesterday and he said that the computer board went out on the refrigerator. Now, I'm waiting on parts. And if he doesn't fix it, then I gotta wait forever to get another refrigerator. They were supposed to order them yesterday and they were supposed to be shipped here. And this guy told me to call him as soon as I get them, then he'll come put them on. But I could go through Christmas without a refrigerator. Also, the company that AHS first sent out is 45 minutes away while the guy that they sent out who's gonna probably end up fixing it and can do the best job is 15 minutes away.

The refrigerator started making a noise and the temperature rose to 54 degrees. This happened four times with the same refrigerator so I called American Home Shield. It was very good taking to the claims rep. She said that the contractor would call me within 24 hours and they did. When the technician arrived, he was awesome. I had a first meeting to diagnose what the problem was and he was more thorough than anybody that has ever been out there. He went through the diagnostics, the computer system and through the refrigerator. He had to get what he replaced but he said he was gonna have to order the part, and it should be within a week. A week later, he came in and installed it. Since then, it’s been good. We had another refrigerator but it was very important for them to fix it and they did. Having the warranty has been great and I would tell my neighbors to get it. American Home Shield is worth it.

I had a claim for my washing machine and American Home Shield sent out a service technician. He said that the drum had detached from the washer and that they could repair it, but because it was so old, it’s probably best to replace it. But when I followed up on it, American Home Shield said that the service technician told them it was due to overloading the machine and that they are not going to cover the cost. I asked for a second opinion and they sent someone else out. That service technician said it was a plumbing job and that he did not find anything wrong with the machine.
Usually, Home Shield would call and tell me if a plumber is gonna be coming out, but this time, I was not informed that a plumber was going to come out. Still, I received a call from a plumber without knowing what was going on and once we got clarity on why the plumber was involved, I scheduled the appointment for the plumber to come out. But the plumber said it wasn’t a plumbing issue. He said he did not find anything clogged in the pipes and since he was not an appliance person, he said he really didn't know what was wrong with the machine.
Then the next correspondence I received was American Home Shield sending me a letter saying that they weren’t going to cover the repair because it was due to overloading. So, I really wasn’t pleased with how my claim was handled. But in the past, I haven't had a problem with American Home Shield. All in all, it’s a good company and the warranty is worth having. However, sometimes you may need to advocate for yourself when you are not getting clear responses or when you’re not getting clarification on your claims.

My husband started getting information about AHS through emails. My father also has American Home Shield on his house in West Virginia and he's had to use it several times for different things, and he's been very happy. So, it was something that I wanted to do. Our most recent experience with AHS was when our lights started flickering and we weren't sure if there was a short. We sent an email to AHS. We did it online and then I got a callback and we set it up. The technician came out and he was wonderful, very courteous, very professional, explained to me what was going on and what had happened.
He was incredible. He told me that we had smart switches and they had gone bad, so he could replace them with a smart switch or he could put a regular switch in. I just had him put regular switches in because it was one in the garage and one in our bedroom, and we had an outlet replaced in our bathroom. I would love to have him come back for any electrical issue.

American Home Shield is worth its weight in gold. People should definitely get it for the peace of mind that it provides.
I filed a claim online for the heat exchanger on my air conditioner. Within that afternoon, I got a phone call from a provider. The technician was above board. He was upfront and he told me everything that was happening. He gave me great updates as far as the time and when he would be making it to the area and to the house.

My husband submitted a claim for our HVAC system online with American Home Shield, and the contractor that came out was pleasant. We were happy with him and we had no issues. The unit was working fine after he repaired it. However, we had the same issue come up after around 12 days and the contractor was supposed to come back out again. I was at home when it went out. When I walked to my house, the whole house smelled like it was on fire because it was smoking. This could be a fire hazard.
Our only issue with American Home Shield is the timeliness of the contractors getting out. We had the initial issue and it was right before our coldest month, and we had no heat for several days because it fell right on the weekend. They had around 64 business hours to get out here. Also, the technicians have a hard time. The system needs to be replaced, but they are instructed to put band-aids on the systems even if that may be a major repair. So if the tech that was supposed to come out tried to do that again, then we would not be happy about it. However, the technician never showed up. We had an appointment between 12:00 and 4:00 and my husband called to follow up to make sure they were coming and to make sure someone was gonna call.
I took off from work and was home from 12:00 until my husband got home from work at about 3:30. I looked at the status update at about 4:45 and it had a note that a technician stopped by at 4:30, but no one was home, which was not accurate because we were home. We tried to call the provider several times and my husband called American Home Shield last night and spoke to someone who was going to leave a message with the provider and to ask that they call us, but we’ve not heard from them at all.
My husband is an attorney and he wanted to be there when the techs came. He had to move around clients and had to push a court hearing up, so he can be at the house. It was the second time that it happened, so that affected his workload. I’m fine with there being a timeframe, but we called the contractor both times and asked for the courtesy if they could come out or at least call us 30 minutes before. I was at the house, so there was somebody there, but we never got a call the last time.
At this point, we are not pleased at all with the service. We paid $600 for a warranty and this is the same issue that we’ve been dealing with for a couple of weeks. What happened was the fan in the air conditioner was running even though the unit turned off, so it was overheating. If I have not come in, that could endanger not only our home but also our dog in the house, and that was upsetting as well. We’ve had the unit turned off at the breaker and we have absolutely no heat. It’s frustrating because if I could deal directly with the provider, then we could reach out to someone that has a good reputation and that has good ratings, and we could get it resolved.
We are at the mercy of the American Home Shield process, which really handcuffs us from being able to get the issue resolved and I feel bad. We had an issue last year with our water heater and, other than it took a while, the experience overall was fine. But with this particular air conditioner issue, the provider has been really unreliable as far as my experience. I don’t wanna reach out to someone directly even though we’re anxious to get it fixed because our house is freezing. I paid money, so I wanna use the warranty. However, we felt like we are at a loss of what we need to do to get the issue fixed.

However, I had to pay extra for some part that he wanted to put on the hot water tank when in fact, I already paid the $75 I was supposed to pay. They call him, then, if it's a lucky day, he gives some info. I don't know who is lying, but 1st the "part was not in production anymore", then "oh, I didn't have time to call and order the part". Then it was "oh, the contractor was on hold with the part company for too long, he didn't have time anymore and had to hang up", then "oh, we called the contractor, but he was on the way to client and couldn't talk". No communication after that from anyone for another week. When I called, the answer was, "Oh, he JUST called the part in. No, no new washer, the contractor said the washer is repairable." Another week passed - no communication. The customer service refused to provide the contact phone for the contractor and refused to dispatched a different one who can do it quicker. I want to start out by saying we've been with AHS for 10 years and had stellar experience although we haven't used them a lot thankfully because everything has been working in our house. The times we did use them, they were prompt to respond and get someone to our home immediately. I didn't wait more than 20 mins on the phone to talk to a representative.
We rented our home and used a property management company but still continued to have AHS for the warranty as they had been so excellent beforehand. We have had a couple issues now where we have had to contact AHS. We had our washer start acting up and after two contractors came out, they both agreed the washing machine needed to be replaced. After many hours on the phone (myself and the prop mgmt company), they denied the claim and said that I had to purchase a new washing machine. The property management called them constantly to find out the status on the claim and if the replacement had been approved and we kept on getting different answers.
After several hours wasted on the phone we still didn't get a yes or no answer from them. I have never had so many problems with AHS before. The only thing that has changed is that our property is now a rental and I'm wondering if they won't cover a lot of the items that is stated in the contract because of that. It's sad because we were so happy with the level of service they provided but waiting on the phone (which is the only way you can contact them) for hours on end and not getting the appropriate answers is now making us wonder if having this coverage is worth it. If they won't cover or replace anything, then it's a waste of $.

I needed someone to come out for the furnace and I spoke with a live person over the phone. It was good dealing with that person. The only thing I didn’t like was that one woman told me they wouldn’t take out the $100 for 48 hours, which was good because I had to go to the bank, but they took it out that day. Nonetheless, I like American Home Shield. I’ve had them before then I quit them but then I have them again now. The contractor they sent out was also good. He got the furnace fixed right away and it's been good since.

Then he came at the time we discussed and he got the job done very quickly. He was professional and he did a good job. He replaced a part and the system is working fine now. Also the expense was reasonable.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield for a water heater replacement and it was easy. It looks like the website's format has changed though. It used to give me a place where I can give an explanation, but I didn’t find that this time. But their response was good. It was better than in the past and that has a lot to do with my schedule and coordinating it with the people that came out. And the water heater's performance since the replacement has been good so far.

My dishwasher quit working and I submitted an online claim with American Home Shield. Their website has been simple and straightforward. I called the company and they scheduled for someone to come out within a day. The technicians were extremely professional and I couldn't be happier with their timeliness. Initially, they replaced the heating element of the unit, which didn't fix the problem completely. They also had to replace the system board and they had to order a new part, which took five days to arrive. The repair company then made an appointment that was convenient for me, met me at that time, and replaced the part. The dishwasher is working well.

When our dryer quit, American Home Shield's contractors came down here, checked it out, and one of the technicians said it wasn’t getting enough electricity. It’s only getting 110 and it should have been 220. They sent the electricians down in the switch box in the room and they changed that little thing, put a larger one in there, and it's been doing all right since then.
My experience in submitting the claim was good. The only thing I disagree with was when my stove went out, we had to go without any stove in the kitchen for four weeks. That was the only thing that I thought would be noted. The contractor had to order the thing then somebody came down, saw what was wrong with the thing, and they put in the order for the stove. It took two weeks before we got the order for the stove, and two weeks later before anybody came down and hooked it up. There are different people that came to hook it up than the ones that came to start with, to see what was wrong with the thing. It just took a long time.
I called out there and a lady answered the phone. I asked how would she feel if her stove went out, and she wasn't able to cook a thing for four weeks, and she said she'd feel just like I did. I asked her to speak to the supervisor, and she said he wasn't available. I never heard anything. One needs to speed up when somebody got a complaint, and something's completely out and it’ll take four weeks to get the thing started back up. When we first took the home warranty out, it didn’t seem years. When we call AHS, it used to be where somebody would come the next day. Now, we call them and sometimes they'd take two weeks before anybody comes to check out what's wrong.
Their contractors do a good job when they first come, but it always seems like they would come but never have what they needed. Even with the dryer, they took two weeks to get the part and to come back to put the thing on. I'm not dissatisfied with their work but with the length of time that it takes to get things done. Other than that, we've had American Home Shield for more than 20 years and I've it recommended several people.

My heat wasn’t working, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online since it's easier and quicker that way. However, I had terrible interactions with the contractors that they sent out. Airtronics is one of them. They left a disastrous mess and didn’t fix the problem. The heat went out again one day later. We tried to get them back out but they couldn’t come out for another week. They came back out but we missed them because of my husband’s work schedule. We called them that night to try to reschedule and explain the situation and no one answered. They told us because of our warranty, they can't come out on a weekend. So, we had to wait through the weekend. I called them Monday and then they told me that they can't schedule because we were through warranty even if they had never fixed the problem.
They came back out, messed up a bunch of more stuff with the heating, and then the next they told us was that it was unserviceable and that there was no way to fix our heating, which is incorrect. They lied to us multiple times. They left us open everything to dust. So, we didn’t want this company to come back. We've been without heat for three weeks now. AHS had everything documented. I think AHS doesn't know that this is an ongoing problem with Airtronics because Airtronics has a 1-star review online for the company and everybody is talking about AHS in every single one of their reviews. So, AHS ought to get rid of them completely.
Nevertheless, a different company came out today. This is MJS and it sounded like they're doing a better job. Their tech knew what he was doing. He said that there needs to be a switch replaced and that was it. He's coming back on Monday. He needed to go order a part, and he told us if we had any problems that he would come out on a weekend if he needed to. It was a completely different experience.

I needed a garage door fixed. AHS couldn’t find a repair company and authorized me to select one after two weeks of begging. (Important note: I live in a community of over a million people but AHS had no garage door repair providers.) I hired and paid in full a company to fix the problem. At the same time the contractor was there, we called AHS and received confirmation of reimbursement authorization code and work order number (The contract pays for approved service minus a $75.00 deductible). AHS took the $75.00 deductible from a credit card they had on file and after 7 weeks, will not reimburse the money paid for services or the double deductible fraud.
I’ve tried for hours to speak to a representative. Stayed on hold for 41 minutes. They hung up on me. I called them back and stayed on hold the second time that day for 1 hour and 41 minutes. Four hours in one day attempting to speak w customer service. It’s been a nightmare. I can prove with documentation every word of this. Please make educated decisions and research this terrible company. The bottom line is I have paid AHS $75.00 and the cost of the full repair.

Kevin from All Pro Air solutions in Livingston Texas was sent to my home to check my thermostat 'cause it would click on and off and wouldn’t turn on when it was supposed to. He took 3 hrs and diagnosed it as 3 different problems but finally said it was fixed. Then said he wanted to look at my outside unit. He goes outside, comes back in to get me and I go outside with him and he states the coils on my AC are so dirty it blew up my hard start and now I have no cold air. I haven’t used my cold air in weeks and the hard start was not burned or melted. It looked like someone had busted and the coils weren’t dirty. Just one small section. He then tells me home warranty won’t pay for the hard start cause it’s a maintenance issue and if I give him $70 he will clean it then write it up so that the home warranty will pay for hard start and a new thermostat.
I tell him no, get him out of my house 'cause now I feel unsafe, turn around and call a reputable HVAC repair company in Lufkin Texas and they come out within 10 minutes of Kevin leaving. I show them the invoice he left me with all the supposed things wrong with my unit and they go and check it. Guy states hard start has nothing to do with my air. I still have cold air and that the hard start doesn't look like it exploded. It look like it was cut or ripped out. He also stated coils weren’t even dirty enough to cause this to happen. He tells me I need to have all Pro Air solutions come back out and fix it but I’m afraid of this company so I let the second HVAC company that I trust fix problem and it costs me $355.
Guy leaves me a detailed invoice in hopes that I can contact AHS, tell them what happened and maybe recoup some of my money. I called and spoke to Kimberly at AHS. Told them all of the above Info and told her I had an invoice from the crook stating all these lies and from an unbiased third party reputable HVAC repairer and she did nothing. She said they’d have to send the same crooks out to my house to check my unit and see if I was telling the truth and she would barely even listen to me. Who are these people sending to our homes and then they don’t care what happens. They get the cheapest, seediest people to come in our homes. But the guy wasn’t only trying to cheat me but them as well. I don’t know if she didn't want the bad report or what but she wouldn’t even listen to anything I said. Beware of AHS. My husband and I initially purchased our policy 10 years ago, believe we had a lapse due to our credit card expiration. Live in Texas and have had air issues since 2008. Every year we call, sometimes multiple times per year and the air gets fixed maybe the 2nd or 3rd time a technician come out. More recently, this summer our air was not working from June 18-Aug 30. We had no AIR in Texas this summer. Last technician, the 4th one, replaced the condenser (even though the first technician replaced the condenser in June 2018). Now our heat is not working.
Same technician who replaced our condenser in Aug 2018 came out this week and said our unit needs to be replaced. Just received a call from AHS stating we must pay $700 for parts because of wear/tear and get our unit up to code (house built 2004). Looks like they will not replace our unit. Customer of 10 years and have had approximately 20+ air technicians to come out since 2008 for AIR issues. We've paid over $7,000 in monthly fees, parts, Freon, and service calls but AHS refuses to buy us a new unit. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Read the fine print! I have been paying American Home Shield for over 16 months now, and have never had to make a claim. When it unfortunately came time to do so, I was told that the washer and dryer that were in my home when I purchased the home (that were only 2 years old) were not going to be cover due to the fact that the stacking units "stacking kit" was improperly done originally. So after paying over $1,000.00 I was told a $50 part was not going to be covered and there was nothing they could do.
The dryer sits atop the washer, and has been rocking when in use, so much so that the dryer rocks forward and has even crushed the top of the washing unit. But, due to the fact that the washer is being crushed due to the stacking kit issue, that is not covered! I guess I should have gone back to school to become an appliance repair specialist prior to purchasing my home, I would have then known that this stacking kit deal was improper, and could have replaced it myself in the beginning and that would have been easier than dealing with the folks at American Home Shield.
Due to the crushing, the dryer walks forward and almost falls off after every other use. With a one year old kiddo running around the house, this is obviously an immediate concern. After three different contractors coming out (the first two contractors didn't work on my brand of washer/dryer even though when scheduling the service appointment they asked for make and model number and serial numbers which I happily provided), the third finally did service our brand (Samsung). I was told that this would not be covered because the part isn't covered. So much for a home warranty!!! I have now cancelled service with these terrible people, and moved to a company that will actually cover my concerns!
Side note: when signing up if you do chose to move forward with American Home Shield, be sure to ask about levels of contracts they offer! Apparently there are levels of contracts you can have that will cover ALL parts of appliances, and not just certain parts that they pick and choose. When I signed up, I was told the only difference in contracts they offer is how you pay - but the claims department feels much differently about that. Long story short, I am left with paying this company $1,000.00, plus a $135.00 service fee (that the contractor told me would only be $50.00 had I called him separately from my Home Warranty with American Home Shield) all to learn that I need a $50.00 part!! Save yourself the grief and go with another home warranty company - there are plenty out there!

This is my first time being a homeowner and I got American Home Shield's service knowing very little about these types of things. They sent someone because the air conditioning stopped working, and the company they sent fixed it. Apparently, it broke again and I called the company back. They went back and said that they fixed it, but the problem was gonna continue as it was a plumbing problem. So, I went back to AHS and asked them to send a plumber.
They sent a plumber that went to my house a week later instead of 24 hours like they promised, and this plumber came to my house without being briefed. I was expecting for Home Shield or the air conditioning person to do some type of report to be given to the plumbing company, but the plumber came to my house on Wednesday knowing nothing of the problem and not understanding what he was doing there. He said that there was nothing broken or damaged in terms of plumbing and that everything was working perfectly.
I went back to Home Shield, and they said that they wanted to send a second plumbing company to have a second opinion. The second plumbing company asked me to be home yesterday. I rely on my work so if I don’t work, I don’t make money and I don’t pay my bills. Yesterday I had to be home in the morning during the time range that they gave. The company called me at 9:00 AM telling me that they were not gonna be able to make it. So, I asked for time off on my job for no reason because these people didn’t show up. They say that they could come in the afternoon, but I cannot be away from my job the whole day. If I asked for the morning, I have to catch up in the afternoon. If they said that they couldn't come in the morning and then I have to be there in the afternoon, it doesn’t look good for me in terms of my work.
I got upset with this situation. I explained to AHS that this company was so unprofessional and unreliable to be taking care of the plumbing problem. They sent somebody else today who seems like a very serious company, and the guy took the time to explain to me even though I know very little. Now it seems that the problem is not plumbing, it's air conditioning. Between one company and another, nobody seems to get with the problem. The air conditioning blamed it on plumbing, while the plumbing explained to me that it has nothing to do with plumbing.
In the meantime, AHS refers me to companies that are not professional, not serious and don’t show up on time, and it's causing me a lot of inconvenience. This is the second time that I have to use this service and my experience has not been very good. I pay every month and when I have a problem, I don’t get a solution. Also, the waiting time on the phone is very long. They ask for you to leave a number so they can call you back, but when they call you back, they also put you on hold. So, if you are first on the queue and they call you back, you expect for them to be ready for you, not to have you again for another 10 or 8 minutes waiting for somebody to take the call. You expect for them to call you back when they are ready and that’s not the case. I'm very dissatisfied.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

For my most recent claim with American Home Shield, trying to get a hold of a contractor that could get out to the property in a timely manner was a problem. AHS was not intuitive enough to be able to handle every issue immediately. I’ve called before on different occasions and tried to get some help or at least some information on it. And they said they had to send it off to their dispatch because they had no one available. I understand companies are busy and people are busy but I’ve had to wait days sometimes to get a dispatch person to call me back.
I have mostly submitted claims online because it’s simpler to do it online. But the time that I’ve had to call in to try to fill in for the information, I normally have to get them a blood sample, a fingerprint scan, and make sure they understand that I’m the property manager trying to handle this claim. But the contractors have been courteous for the most part. They contact my tenants and they go ahead and go from there. The work gets done. One time, I had an AC issue and the contractor went out there. He looked at it and he said he had to order parts. It took him anywhere from five to seven days to order the parts and these tenants were out without AC in one of the hottest months we’ve had so far. They were cooking like bacon on a fryer. It’s like you would think certain days could be simpler, but I guess not.
The contractors are either too busy or they just don’t care because they’re getting so much work in that they can just slack it off and be like, “Hey, we’re waiting and there’s nothing we can do.” Which I understand because you can’t water out of thin air without having actually anything else to make it with. But it’s a situation that you just gotta take a cup of tea with. Other than that, for the price, AHS is not bad. I just renewed one of my contracts with them because they gave me a great deal to renew. It's $100 cheaper than anywhere else. As a company, they are recommendable, but always call at night. Just be patient because they have no control over their vendors and contractors that they work with because they have their own schedule and things.

I haven't had my microwave since August and he was due to come in and fix it. The keyboard wasn’t working and there was some stuff going on with the power. He came in, he took the parts, ran off with them for a month, then he came back. When he fixed it, he didn’t quite fix it. So, now it’s working, but it only does one speed and the light doesn’t come on. It doesn’t rotate anymore. He told my wife it was fixed and he didn't say he was coming back.
Every holiday, I don't have my microwave. He was telling my wife one thing and telling me another. And every time we called them, we would call them on three-way and they act like, “We don’t know what you’re talking about.” They don’t understand you or they don’t know what’s going on. Also, he was a little weird. He was kind of just looking and wasn’t giving too much feedback. Then, he said he had to get the part and he would be back. And then they kept telling me the part was either back ordered or he didn’t order it. He got one lady that answered the phone who I think is probably a family member or something. They have a terrible customer service and terrible interaction. They really don’t need to be in a program like American Home Shield.
The last time, it took him a month to come back. I figured that’s what he was. Also, I found out he closed the case. I'm trying to complain and get in touch with American Home Shield but I couldn't. I had been calling in during the day and the phone would just be ringing and then they would tell me, "Go online." I called a couple of times.
American Home Shield needs to have more people answering the phone. There’s no way they're that busy all the time every day. They want everybody to wanna use the app or automated. But they need to switch that out and make it a little more personable. I need to call them right now and get my icemaker fixed now. I can't get them on the phone and I was gonna tell them about that. But I tried to just to do it through the app. Other than that, AHS is pretty good. I put my claim in through the little app or the site and they would call. Then, somebody would show up. I've had no complaints. They're pretty good about getting somebody out within the 48-hour or 72-hour window.

The furnace of my upstairs heater would turn itself on and off and not stay on. At right around the same time, I also had a problem with my water heater in the basement. I submitted claims with American Home Shield then usually, within a few hours, I got a call from the service company that was assigned and they made an appointment. Their contractors were great. The heater contractor, as well as the plumber who came out for the water heater contact were they were very personable and professional. I liked them. They explained what they were gonna do, called before they came back, and let me know a half an hour before they were gonna show up. They did great and everything seems to be in working order.

Navigating through the American Home Shield’s website is a lot better than it used to be. It’s pretty easy now. Submitting claims online is straightforward which I recently did for the doorbell. All I did was fill out the form and submit it. They called me the next day and would have been able to come out that same day if I had been available. But I ended up scheduling it two days out. Working with the contractor was extremely beneficial. He was a really good guy and was able to fix it and is now working great. In addition, he showed me a couple things about what I could do if I was ever in trouble and changing it myself.
Having warranty for some of the little stuff when it costs me $75 each time, is not really a good deal because, for some things, it costs less than that if I just paid somebody to come and do it. But I didn't get the warranty for that, I have it just in case anything big ever happens, like if ever we have problems with the water heater or the air conditioner and for that, it’s worth its weight in gold. American Home Shield’s service is good. They have a good network of contractors for the various things that they need to support. I’ve had them for years, and they’ve been very timely every time I call. It’s been a very positive experience.

My air conditioner was freezing up. I spoke with someone at American Home Shield to file a claim and that person was very professional, intelligent, and courteous. The contractor that they sent out was also great and they fixed my air conditioner to where it worked when it gets warm enough to where I can’t breathe. But the weather was too cool at the time and they said they’re gonna need to come back in the spring when it warms up a little bit. Aside from that, the tech put some Freon in the air conditioner to keep the wheelwork, but it’s losing some Freon now.

I submitted a request for service last week for a water heater leak. I was contacted within 24 hours by a plumber assigned by American Home Shield. The plumber said they would send someone maybe Friday, but for sure by Monday before 3 pm. Monday at 1, the plumber showed up at my home. Immediately greeted me with a profanity laced sentence regarding how long it took to get to my home. The plumber then carried his profane speech into my home where he observed the leaking water heater; continuing about how "** difficult this will be" and how the previous installer "** it all up." The plumber took several photos, said I was "**, but he would hook me up."
I called American Home Shield to tell of my terrible experience and was asked to leave a message for them to call back. I never received a call. I emailed AHS and the plumber to ask what the follow up timeline was to be as the plumber was not very forthcoming with a timeline. I did not hear back. I called the next day, now 6 days after my water heater leaking and had to leave another message for AHS to call back and I also left a message for the plumber. I received a call back from AHS about 49 minutes later, the woman said she would call the plumber and let me know, but her records showed they had ordered a new water heater.
3 hours later, I received a call that the water heater was not covered under the 3x3 warranty that specifically covered it because "the plumber said it had been leaking for days." When I asked how he could tell, the woman said "he sent photos." I said it was ridiculous, I had a warranty on the water heater and it was in force. The woman said I could ask for a 2nd opinion, but most likely the next plumber would say the same thing. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she referred me to the contract stating the plumber was the expert and my only solution was to hire a 2nd opinion plumber of AHS choosing, the customer service rep for AHS then disconnected me.

After I wrote the original report here the company contacted me and the issue was resolved. It took a total of 5 secheduled visits, including 2 no-shows, one diagnosis visit without follow up, one diagnosis visit with follow up, and one actual fix visit. I had to be on site several hours each time, plus spend some hours in total waiting on hold on the phone. Quite stressful and time consuming.
On the plus side, the washer was eventually fixed and what would have probably cost approx. $700-900 was done for a $75 service charge (plus $500 warranty). Also, a fridge was fixed without incident earlier this year on the same annual warranty. So overall financially it worked out.
If it was not for the extreme hassle getting the washer fixed I would have given the service a high rating. I've adjusted it to middling to factor in the easy fridge fix and the eventual but stressful washer fix.

I have been trying for a month or more to get our washer fixed via AHS. They scheduled Sears to come fix it. Sears never showed. One week wasted. They scheduled Sears again. Sears never showed. Another 10 days wasted. They scheduled a local firm to come. The guy came, said he needed parts and another person to help him, said someone would be in touch. That was 1 week ago.
Called AHS - waited 45 minutes on hold, had to hang up when battery died. Charged the phone, called the firm that had come out last week, they claimed they had no record of ever inspecting the device, and no idea what to do next. Called again, requested call back, got a callback, waited 15 minutes on hold, phone was answered, silence... No one on the line. Waited 5-10 minutes. Nothing. Called again... endless wait... no option to be called back offered. Battery died while waiting. Charged battery, called again, endless wait again, no offer to be called back, no estimate of wait time provided. AHS service is absolutely appalling.

We have AHS for 20 years. Not once has the repair/experience been smooth and hassle-free. This time is no different. I had a technician out the day after Thanksgiving for a broken dishwasher. (Technician took almost a week to get here). Said AHS would need to order the part and we would be contacted. Tried and tried to call technician and rang busy nonstop.
Finally after two calls to AHS (wait time to reach them over 20 mins) I got someone to call the tech to check status update, only to tell me the part was delivered the same day it was ordered, which is obviously impossible! Still not resolved and even when it is I would not rate them a "0" stars! With over 11K invested in this warranty it is hard to let it go, however I have NOT come close to getting my money's worth, and the service call amounts continue to increase year after year. We have given up and called outside help many times, especially when AC isn't working and they cannot come help for over a week. Do yourself a favor. Put the $60 month in a savings account, and you will have more than enough to take care of repairs around your home yourself.

I called AHS to get help with water in my basement and told them that it was not coming from any of the water pipes. Yet, they sent a plumber who failed to identify the root cause and did not even check the sump pump. I'd to hire another contractor who identify a failed sump pump. I called AHS again and they wanted another service fee for the same issue. I agreed to pay that but when another plumber showed up he told me that AHS would not cover the pump because the furnace water is also coming into the pit. He wanted exorbitant amount to change the pump which I refused to pay.
No one from AHS ever contacted me on both occasions to give me an update on my service request. I called them again and they told me the same story about the clause which does not cover the sump pump replacement. I asked them to cancel my contract and agent told me that it won't be canceled until retainer department calls. After waiting 15 days I called them to find out the status of cancellation and found that contract was cancelled the same day when I called. They are worst because of sneaky practices, worst communication and no value for your money.

Call American Home Shield. Was waiting for the technician to come for about 2 weeks. The guy came look at my stove said, "Sorry I couldn't fix it," and left. Call them again. In about a week another guy came, knock in my door and said; "I am a technician guy but my partner got sick. There is nothing I can do, I just came to say that, bye." I just went to the store and bought another stove. But you still need to pay 75$ service fee (for what). Think twice before you'll take that insurance.

We had a sewer gas smell in our house, and it was really bad. We couldn't even breathe in the house. We had to get to the point where we almost had to go to a hotel to live. So we called American Home Shield and spoke with a representative to submit the claim and the one thing that really was a downfall to the process was we were on hold for more than 45 minutes before we got a customer service representative.
A plumber was called out but unfortunately, the plumber did not find or locate the issue. I don't think he was experienced enough. He found a vent or a drain in our floor of our basement that wasn't capped, and he said that was where the sewer gas was coming from, but that wasn't the source of the gas. He took the easy way out, and didn't look further to what the problem was. So the second time we called American Home Shield warranty and said, "We're still smelling the gas. It's not fixed." They called the same plumber, and the plumber said they weren't coming back out because there was a problem with our sump pump drain. It was not draining and it was smelling. And I knew that that wasn't the case because this was sewer gas smell.
It was really bad.so we had to hire an outside plumber to come in and take a look at it. And we did call American Home Shield and let them know that we were going to do that, and they approved it. But the new plumber, after two visits, found that we had a broken vent pipe in the wall, and it was releasing gas. They just removed the pipe because it wasn't needed. Last night was the first night we lived in our home, and didn't have a bad smell.
So we had to call AHS warranty several times on the same thing but they did try to help us. American Home Shield is a good service. There are some glitches where you're on hold for long periods of time. But I have to also give them credit that we called just about anytime throughout the day, including the night, and they were available to us, so that was a good plus.

Also, he didn’t show up the second time that he said he was supposed to. He could have fixed our heater, but he literally stopped answering my calls. I had a faucet go bad on the sink and it took a while to get the whole thing resolved because after we got connected with the plumber guy, we went on a trip. We submitted the claim online and it went smoothly. My interactions with the contractor went well, although there were a couple of times where I felt he could have kept me informed. He was trying to locate the part and one of the things that he ran into was that it sounded like American Home Shield wanted him to try to repair something before AHS would replace it. He ordered the parts, but they weren’t the right parts. He wanted to order a new faucet unit, but it sounded like American Home Shield would only go to a contractor grade on the faucet unit, and it was not a contractor grade. It was something better than that, so it took a little time to get through that also. Ultimately, it worked out. It got fixed and everything’s wrapped up now.
When you’re talking about a faucet, the technician can tell whether it’s repairable or if it should be replaced. Meanwhile, he was racking up billable hours trying to work through repair stuff. American Home Shield isn’t saving any money with that philosophy on items like that. He spent at least two or three hours trying to work through the repair thing, so that was a decent chunk of the bill. Nevertheless, we recommend American Home Shield.

Initially, Mr. Rooter tried to charge me $950 out of my pocket for my part of what needed to be with the water heater. My plumber did the whole thing for 800 including the water heater. Also, I ended up having to call several times to get it resolved. So, I had a much better experience with Texas Gulf Coast Service Center. And then their contractor that comes out is always polite and gets the job done. He also lets me know what he’s doing and what might happen. We have really great communication. We had the ice maker on our refrigerator replaced. The claim process of AHS was reasonably easy. The contractor was out the next day. The contractor was really good. He came out to fix it, showed me that it was working, and he was very pleasant. The repair didn’t work though. The machine kept icing up and it wasn’t delivering ice. So, I called American Home Shield again rather than calling the contractor directly. They got him in touch with me the next day, and he indicated that the ice maker needed replacement. They ordered the parts and kept me advised to when the parts came in, scheduled the time, and fixed it. It’s been fine since then.
We had some problems on the repair we had earlier in the year, on our clothes washing machine. They sent a man out very quickly who took a look and he recommended that the washer be replaced. Apparently, American Home Shield did not accept that report and referred another contractor. But somehow, the referral got lost, so we waited a week and nobody called us.
So, I called AHS again. I got a very good person who put me on a conference call with the contractor. I was told by the operator from American Home Shield that they prefer to fix rather than replace whole machines. The second contractor came out and indicated he thought that it should be replaced. This time, American Home Shield accepted that. I determined to buy it locally, so I could get it installed quickly. And it was a little confusing as to how to get reimbursed for that, but it finally came through and we got reimbursed. So, we have a new washing machine and it’s working fine now.
We’ve had AHS for about 12 years and those are the two claims we’ve made in one year. My biggest problem was that I was getting different answers from the people that I’ve reconnected to when I called earlier this year on the washing machine. I’ve got three rentals and my personal residence, and I’ve had AHS warranty for all four of them. But when I went to renew the warranty for my house, they doubled the price for the renewal. The rep said this was because I’ve filed too many claims. But I said I’ve got three rentals and she said that was just on my house. It was gonna be over $1,000 to renew, so I’m not doing that at all. Once my other warranties expire, I’m not renewing them too. I would tell people not to go with AHS and forget renewing with them.

We feel good about our experience with American Home Shield. We pay American Home Shield upfront, not the technicians, after their technicians do the work. It's a flat fee of $75 and they take that out. We had three claims with American Home Shield and it worked out well. The first technician that I worked with was fast and he knew what he was doing. The last claim was the main circuit board of our microwave oven that went into a trouble code. The technician that they sent out didn't have all the parts so he ordered the circuit board and he fixed the switch. Right now, we're waiting on the service tech to come back. He'll call me when the board comes in.
If I had gone out and bought the part for $50, two parts would've been more than the fee, and then I would have to put it in. That's how I determine whether to make a claim or not. If I could fix it under what they charge, then I would do it on my own but if it's cheaper for them to do it and have me not worry about doing it, then I make a claim. In fact, I had an air conditioner fan that was binding. I went up, took the fan out, tried to fix it and put the fan back in. It worked for a day and it bound again. I called AHS and the mechanic came out, went upstairs and put the new one in. That was the one that I was really pleased with. I had recommended American Home Shield to several people. They are not easy to access or communicate with, I have been on the phone for 2 hours trying to get someone in the right department to help me with the purchasing of a replacement. Since I didn't have the proper information the lady chose to hang up on me. I have been trying to resolve this matter since 10/12/18. There is no other way to communicate with any supervisors or corporate office, you have no choice but to waste hours of your life trying to resolve a simple matter. NO RESPECT FOR CONSUMER'S TIME NOR APPRECIATION FOR BUSINESS.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

On the phone for over 35 minutes. I submitted all required paperwork for a repair that happened on a Sunday night. I called 3 weeks later and got the run around from a call center in the PI. They are waiting on a complete diagnosis from the technician. We got permission to go outside of AHS because they could not find anyone. AHS called and spoke with the technician while he was here and got all the information he could provide. I spoke with a manager. Still the same "by the instruction book" answer. Very frustrating. I will not renew with them. Sincerely suggest you not use them.

On Dec 3 we called AHS re a potential need for repair of a Samsung stove. They charged $125 for a service call and said their contractor would contact us within two days. We did not hear from the contractor (Sears) and on Dec 6 called to cancel the service as in the interim we discovered it was our error in operating the stove and no service was needed. They advised us that our “account would be credited” for the service charge. On Dec 7 we saw no credit to bank acct so called again. The person said that they saw the credit and it would show in our account within 24-48 hours. By the 12th we still had not been credited and desperately needed it as we are retired and on a fixed income and our balance was close to zero. On calling them they then informed us that the credit will be processed within 14-21 days and they would mail a check. This was contrary to what we had been told.
Two calls to them that day resulted in their stubborn refusal to help. We requested to speak to a manager. On one call they said no manager was available so we waited on the call for almost an hour on hold with no further response. On a second call they hung up on us. Later a manager called and said he would look into it and call us back. He has not as of this writing. First we believe that they should honor their two employees initial advice that our account should be immediately credited. Second $125 is exorbitant as we later discovered the contractor’s service charge was only $60. This so called service is lousy and I wish I could give zero charges. Do not use them, find another way to handle services. Walk away if you already have their service.

Having spent over $650 for the year, I made a service call and NO ONE answered for 52 minutes. I called back to complain and no one answered for 31 minutes. When I finally got to a supervisor (Chasity in the Memphis office), she was as rude as any customer service rep I have ever dealt with and seemingly could not care less about the hold time. PLEASE do not make the same mistake I have. This is a complete waste of your money. Do the math. Your first service call will cost you about $725 (annual fee plus a service charge). Save your money and put it in a home maintenance account. You will thank me later. Besides even if you don't mind wasting your money, then you have to decide if you want to waste your time because you will certainly do that. Chasity was the last straw. I am cancelling after decades as a customer.

Called on broken dishwasher. They stalled the repair, blamed it on parts not available for 3 weeks. Then took hours to talk to someone. Each time they lied about coverage and never resolved issue. Finally gave up and got item fixed in 48 hours. This company is Horrible! Wasting your money. Had nerve to charge me $100 to place claim & $37 to cancel policy! Cancel your policy before you need a repair and get ripped off!
Hi, Howard. I regret to learn that you canceled your policy as a result of the parts not being available. The ETA for those parts was not 3 weeks out and you may have been misinformed. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to assist you further if necessary.

I was told it will take another two weeks for part to come in. I am an 84 year old widow that uses microwave for pretty much of my cooking so I found this to be totally unacceptable. Buyer beware of timely service.

I had the warranty with the purchase of a new home. The first year went quite well. We had a water heater go out and a few other things. It was a bit of a pain to work through them when the contractor didn't fix what they needed to right away, but it seemed worth the effort. Based on that I renewed and this second year has been a disaster. Calling their customer service has been one of the worst customer service departments ever, not because they are rude, but seem incompetent or unwilling to address the problem. There is no follow up on their part when having problems with a contractor. It is now 4 months and counting since I had a contractor come out to assess what was wrong. The guy seemed nice but then he no showed the next 3 appts without calling. I had to keep calling back to get back on their schedule.
I have talked to AHS on 3 occasions and they have told me that they will take care of it, but nothing has happened and no progress has been made a couple months into calling them. I asked for a different contractor and they told me I would be charged for that. I asked them if they had an expectation for how long it should take for a contractor to perform their work and they said there is no limit. On my last call, each which I have had to wait on hold for at least 15 minutes to get through, I was told that the contractor hadn't even submitted a work order to AHS which is necessary before the work can even be approved.
It has probably been the most frustrating process I have ever dealt with. The bad part is I would cancel, but I have already paid for the work so I really wanted to at least get the service I paid for before leaving. 4 months and probably about 20 calls between calling the contractor and AHS and I will never choose to pay for their service again. It worked great when it worked, but when it didn't it feels like a scam that you are paying for something that you get nothing in return for. I felt it was only fair to give them 2 stars since I had some positive, but the negative is too much.
Hello, Luke. I am definitely working to get a resolution to this service request. Thank you for responding to me and I appreciate your patience.

My dishwasher leak was “repaired” by Greenway Home Services sent by AHS. The leak was in fact not fixed and now my hardwood floors are ruined. American Home Shield claims it is past the 60 day window for a return service call. We didn’t even consider the dishwasher was still leaking so we didn’t examine it because it was supposedly fixed. This is a joke and totally unacceptable! What a poor example of a company taking care of their customers. Now I have a burdensome problem due to their negligence. Beware of this company.

I submit claims with American Home Shield either online or over the phone, depending on where I am. If I’m doing it from the hospital where I work, I do it on the telephone. If I’m at home, then I do it from my tablet. Both ways, the process of getting the claim submitted is equally easy. Recently, we had the oven looked at for the temperature and then our dryer needed to be repaired. It was the thermocouple. The contractor that came out was very knowledgeable and offered very good service. Everything has been working fine since the repair. If we had any other service, my husband would like the same company to come. Overall, the experience with AHS was easy and it was great to be able to have an easy service to get something repaired.

I tried submitting the claim online but the website wasn't working, so I ended up having to call them, which was easy to do. The plumber that they sent out checked the water heater, did the soap and bubble test, and said there was no leak and that we should be fine. The interaction with him was straightforward. AHS is a good place for people to deal with different things happening in your home, and they’re good people to deal with. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for a garbage disposal issue and the tech who came to my home was nice. Everything was great with his visit but there was more he could've done with fixing the garbage disposal. He didn’t even tell that he saw something stuck in it. He told me why they were gonna have to replace it and he submitted the claim.
When the rep at AHS called to do a re-up, she told me that the tech said that there was something metal in it and that he couldn't get it out. He had never taken the garbage disposal apart and all he had ever done was stick a screwdriver which moved around the blades and then started the garbage disposal up. When he put the claim in to replace it, the reps at AHS said they couldn't because it was not regular wear and tear. Something was stuck in there. I’ve never had a contractor who did that. Everybody has always explained everything to me and laid it out to me. That was the first time that has ever happened. AHS has sent me several emails saying that they won't be able to fix it and because of this, I figured that I'll just fix the garbage disposal myself.
Hello, John. We regret to learn that your issue was not covered based on the info provided by the technician. If you ever disagree with the diagnosis provided by the tech, please contact us and we can offer a second opinion company to come out. Thank you for the feedback.

The toilet that came with the house was leaking. The seller provided American Home Shield for us, and supposedly, it had the toilet repaired before we came to live here. But the tank itself was leaking and the fill valve was leaking. I submitted the claim through the website and a person came out to look at it. They said that the leak probably had been there for a while and for that reason, would not be covered by the warranty, which was disappointing but it is what it is. They suggested that we replace the toilet outright, which we were able to do without too much trouble. Other than that, we had an issue about the fridge and it was dealt with immediately. They were very consummate professional. If we were to have any other issues around the house, I would go to American Home Shield first instead of trying to deal with it myself.

Submitting claims online to AHS has been easy. However, the first experience we had with them was horrible and I was ready to walk. Still, we’ve had two other repairs since then that have been excellent. It was a fluke that the contractor we got the first time didn’t measure up. Fortunately, the last two have been solid. A guy came out today to fix the convection oven and this is the second visit. The first visit, the tech diagnosed the problem. I realized he had to order a couple of parts that would be shipped to our house. The parts came here and I notified the shop. They have been professional and their response time has been good. The technician came out and put the parts in, but the convection oven still didn't work. He called the shop to get further directions. They said they had to go back to the manufacturer to get some more details as to why it was not working.

My dryer was not heating and then it won't shut off. I put in a request through American Home Shield online and I paid my $75 copay. I got a text saying they would be contacting me within 24 hours. Then, the next text message said the appointment was scheduled for which was Thursday between 11:00 and 3:00 with Clark's Appliance repairs. Then, they said that if I had any questions, I could respond to that SMS text message. So I responded and asked if they were coming out to diagnose or to actually fix it. My concern was that they were gonna come out and just diagnose the dryer and then leave for another week. Nobody ever responded.
Then, that Thursday, my daughter and I were home all day and between 11:00 and 3:00, I did not go anywhere. I waited for the guy to show up, but I never got a confirmation phone call or text about the appointment. I never talked to the person ever. I didn't even have a conversation with them except through text. 3 o'clock rolls around, the end of our window, and I had things I needed to do. I didn't know if the guy was coming and if I was still on his schedule book. So I called the number that was sent through the text originally. It went to voicemail and said that Clark's appliance repair was busy with a client and on the message, it said if I couldn't leave a message, then text. I left a message saying my appointment was between 11:00 and 3:00 and asked if anybody was coming that day. I also sent a text. The guy texted back asking for my address.
I sent him my address and he said he was going to a call out in Chandler and then he would be coming to Mesa. By that time it was 3:30 and I had to leave to go pick up my husband at the airport. Chandler is like over half an hour away from where I live anyway. We were talking 4:00 or 5:00 o'clock traffic and I had no idea how long he was gonna be at that call. I told him I needed to leave and go pick someone over in the airport and I would be back. I asked if it worked with his time frame. He said he would call when he was on his way and if he couldn't make it that day, then we would reschedule for tomorrow. It sounded great. I was on my way to the airport and at 4:00, Clark's appliance repairs texted me he was not gonna make and he would schedule me for the following day.
I asked what was his anticipated time frame for the following day because I am a nurse and I work night and I sleep during the day. I took Thursday off, so that I could be up all day long with him being here. He asked what time I go to sleep. I said that I sleep at noon and all he texted back was, "Sounds good." He said he would be here before then. I asked what time because if he was talking 11:45 and he was gonna be here for an hour diagnosing the problem, then that means I don't get to sleep till 1:45 and I have to get up at 4:00, so that doesn't work for me. He said he had an appointment and he had to go out to Apache Junction first before he comes to me. So, not only was everybody put before me on Thursday, now we were rolling into the second day and he was still putting people before me. And I was supposed to be on between 11:00 and 3:00 on Thursday.
He never called, he never said he was running late, nothing until I finally reach out to him and said, "What's the deal?" I texted him and said that he seemed really busy. I told him to go ahead and just cancel my work order with American Home Shield because I have already taken a day off and I couldn't take another day off Friday. I said I was gonna have to call and schedule a different appointment. He said he would cancel my work order with American Home Shield. He wished me luck finding somebody to fix it by the end of the following week instead of the following day. That was the last time I heard from him. He didn't text or anything else after that.
AHS has always been great. I've been a customer of theirs for 15 years. I was a real estate agent and I use to buy a home warranty for American Home Shield for all my clients. So, I've never had a problem with American Home Shield, but he was not professional or appropriate in any way. He did not reach out. If he at least, let me know, "Hey I'm running behind," then I could have made different arrangements to get my husband picked up from the airport. But he didn't even do that. He didn't give me any time frames.
The next day, I called American Home Shield and explained that situation that I've already paid $75 copay, I couldn't go back online and request service again without having to pay another $75 copay. And the guys never showed up and then didn't get in touch with me until later in the evening when I texted him, still never called and I need to get my dryer fixed. I was on the phone with the first lady, she hung up on me with American Home Shield.
Then I called back and talked to the second lady. I explained the situation again and while I was in the phone with her, she asked if she could put me on a brief hold and try to find a vendor in my area. I said, "Sure." So while I was on hold, they called him. She said that Clark's Appliance repair called her and he told her he had been out to my house twice on Thursday. He said I told him I had to go pick somebody up in the airport and he would try to reschedule to come back later in the afternoon and that I couldn't reschedule it. Everything he said was a total lie. None of it was true.
I have all the text messages and times conversation of when I actually had the conversation with him and I never received a phone call from him. My daughter and I were here all day. I even texted my neighbor next door and said I had to leave and go pick my husband up from the airport. My daughter was gonna be here by herself and she knew to let the guy in to fix the dryer. I have all these on text, times, dates stamp, everything, and this guy completely lied. AHS said that he said the job was done and he has completed the work order. And I canceled it, but completed the work order and was sending a bill to American Home Shield anyway even though he never came to fix it. We would have known if he would have even come and knock on the door. Even if we were in the back of the house, we would have known if someone was at the door.
I still don't have a dryer. I took today off again because I'm here today, between 12:00 and 6:00, somebody named Jarred is supposed to be here to diagnose my dryer, not fix it, and then, they're gonna have to order the part. And God knows when they'll be back to fix it. So, I'm going on four weeks now without a dryer. I'm a little bit frustrated but the second lady that I talked to with American Home Shield was very helpful and very understanding. She put in a whole new work order so that I wouldn't have to pay another $75 copay to have somebody come out and fix my dryer.

When I turned on the furnace, it would click on then it would click off, so I had no heat for a couple of days. I submitted the claim online with AHS then they lined me up with someone in my area. After that, they sent me the name and number of the contractor that would be contacting me within 24 hours and the person came the next day. Before the tech came out, they sent me a message and said he would be there by whatever time. I couldn’t be home when he was coming but I left the key for him to come in. At that point, I couldn’t miss work and I needed heat. It was cold. Then they have a tracking thing to let you know that the person was on his way. And he came and did whatever he had to do. Then he left and didn’t call to say anything.
When I called to find out if the furnace was fixed or not, I spoke to the person in the office who was very nice and helpful. She said that the tech didn’t resolve the situation and that she would call me back. She also said that she would send a more experienced person out, which she did and the second tech came that night. He was off-work but was in the area. When he came, he saw what the problem was and said that he could fix it temporarily for me to have heat at night, but he didn’t want to take the chance. He wanted to fix it right. So, I told him to just come back 6:00 o’ clock the next day.
That was on a Friday and on Saturday, he wasn’t working but he went out to the store to get the part that I needed. Unfortunately, the store was closed. So he called me early in the morning and told me he couldn’t come that day because the store was closed. But he came promptly on Monday, fixed the issue, and was very nice and very professional. Everything has been going well since the repair.
I’ve been with AHS for a long time now and so far, I’ve had some good experiences and I’ve had some not-so-good experiences in the past. It all depends on the contractor in the area and most of the time, they would come and do a good job. I'm very happy with AHS. I'm 79. So, it's so nice when something breaks down, I call AHS. The only drawback, I have to wait a long time a good 30 minutes when I call them on the phone to submit a claim. And I'm too old to be using the computer. But it's awesome to have them on my side. I try not to submit because I do have a handyman. So, a lot of the times, I go through my handyman. I don't wanna have to use the system. But when I do need it, AHS has followed through right away. Whatever we pay for the peace of mind, it's really worth it. I insured my son, but he doesn't wanna take advantage because he thinks they're going to raise his rates. So, somehow, someone gave him the wrong information. Because I have put three claims and to me, it's wonderful. I also have another house insured that I have a tenant.
Recently, they worked on my dryer and I was very happy. They were very nice. I had to wait a long time for a part, but that must be probably normal. The technician was pretty knowledgeable. The people in the office were very nice and friendly as well. They tried to accommodate me. They have come other times, once for the same dryer and then another time for the washer. And then, the other claim that I put was for my swimming pool which was leaking, but I never got a call because the leak has to be on top, not inside the pool. The pool has a little crack so, I don't think they cover that.

Tech told me that he needed to order parts for the water heater, did not fix the leaks but would do all at one time when parts came in. Attempted to contact the plumbing company, leaving 2 messages and no return calls.
Contacted AHS yesterday and work order was listed as "completed". I was told by AHS that a tech reported a diagnosis was unable to be made as the area was rancid with "urine". Not true as animals are not in basement ever, and both dogs are housebroken. The area is "messy", I admit, but NOT like that. I requested a different company due to the conflicting reports to no avail (unless I want to put out more $$ for visit). AHS attempted to contact the company, also without success and I was told I would be called back. 24 hours have passed and I have not received any calls. Needless to say, I am less than happy. I still have 2 leaks and no hot water going on 2 weeks now.
Please contact me if the issue was not resolved. I have left a few voicemails regarding the hot water heater.

I called for a bathroom plumbing issue, first time, new contract with this company. It took 2 days and I finally called asking where is the appointment, only to be told that there was no one in my area, and that I should find someone and submit a bill. I thought, "That's good, I did not know they would do that." I was told how to submit the bill for reimbursement. I submitted it. I get a letter saying that "We will not reimburse for service performed without prior approval." I thought I got approval when they told me how to submit my bill! WHY TELL ME TO SUBMIT A BILL AND THEN TELL ME I CAN'T. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I canceled my contract and they gave me back my money for that. I want everyone to know that this company is a WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.
I apologize that you had that experience. The information should have been relayed to you correctly the first time. Although you canceled your service with us, I do appreciate the feedback.

The contract clearly states the coverage. When I submitted the issue I was having with my plumbing, I submitted the symptoms of the problem because I am not the plumbing expert. The plumber stated he can't fix the noise and that the problem was something else. WHAT?? How would I know what the problem is? That's what the plumber is for. The issue causing the noise is also a covered item but apparently I have to set up a new service call and pay all over again to say that I want the specific item covered, not the symptom. The plumbers don't get paid enough to work on your problem so they are in and out fast and do very minimal work. This is a complete rip-off. Now I have to hire another plumber and get the issue fixed on my own. Was not worth having this insurance. I wish this company would just make right by this but they still will not after 5 calls. And I keep getting a bill for the service but I won't pay because I am not satisfied with the work.
Thank you for your patience, I am glad we were able to reach a resolution to your service request.

With American Home Shield, we end up not having to select contractors for necessary repairs or replacements by random. We’re usually provided with folks who are competent and able. The reps on the AHS side are usually very attentive, accommodating and empathetic. Sometimes, the contractors who come, not so much. The most recent claim we had was when we had a problem with our furnace. We woke up and had no heat, and it was cold outside. We called AHS and because of the condition, they had someone here in less than an hour. This time, the tech was great. My wife is a realtor and she recommends American Home Shield to people that are purchasing houses. I was on the phone with one of the people who work for me, and I was talking to him about the benefits of having American Home Shield. He's going to be signing up himself. I have recommended them in the past, and will continue to do so.

I had a small electrical problem so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Their rep's professionalism was exceptional and in a few days, a contractor came to my property. My wife and I are getting along in our years and the security of having American Home Shield's warranty in my back pocket has been very comforting. Other people should look into the service. They're very prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. I've been very satisfied with the company.

I went online like AHS instructed me to, so I could have my heating system checked. They sent a technician in about three days and everything went beautifully. But the problem is, I'm still waiting for the follow-up for the second person to come and fix the actual problem. It's been about six days now that I made a call. The gentleman had the person on hold while he was trying to make an appointment for me from the American Home Shield. I was asked if I want the same company and I said yes because they are aware of what needs to be fixed. But no one ever contacted me as far as fixing the issue, even though I was charged $80 plus for that particular service. When I tried on my own, I was told that I had to call American Home Shield, and they would send the work order out, and then the tech could come in and take care of the problem. But American Home Shield, so far, seems to be okay. The problem might be the people they sent out, not American Home Shield per se.

Sometimes the wait time at American Home Shield for getting anyone out to call is very long. I've done a few online requests for claims but if I ever try to call, it takes a really long time to get through. Also, it's always a foreigner that's speaking to us so it's a little bit difficult sometimes to understand what they're saying. The other thing is that I misunderstood and thought that the cost is associated with a visit versus each appliance. It turns out that it depends on whether or not the appliance is something that someone from one service provider can see to versus two. So, if you have a plumbing issue and something else, those two don't go together so those would be two different service costs. I wasn't aware of that, and I didn't realize that at one point I was gonna get charged twice and have two different services come out.
Other than that, it seems pretty easy to navigate American Home Shield online. The contractors are professional and polite. The quality of work is great and they take their time in diagnosing the problem, having to go purchase parts and getting things taken care of. They're very diligent. The company that came in recently and did the repair work did a great job. They had to come back a number of times, but they took care of it as many times as it took for them to come back. I would recommend having a home warranty especially when you're purchasing a house that's not brand new.

The garage door wasn’t opening, and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. I requested the service and Concho Valley Door called us. They came over and they told us what they thought was wrong with the garage door. They had to order a part, but to do that, they had to talk with the insurance company first to see if it was a go. They submitted all that stuff for us and it took a day but they got the approval. They ordered the part and got the garage door fixed, and everything has been very good since the repair. With American Home Shield, you have to know what their coverages are. The basic coverage doesn’t cover what we eventually had this claim for, but what we have is the more comprehensive one. As long as you know you're covered, then no big deal.

I've heard other people complain about submitting their claims with American Home Shield but, in my experience, that was never an issue at all. It has been straightforward and simple, like you could do it within five minutes. Every time I call, they send a contractor within the first 24 to 48 hours. However, we had an issue with the water heater which was somewhat of a headache. I didn’t have hot water for three weeks. It was a tankless heater and something in its heating procedure wasn’t explained by the contractor until the end when they sent the last person to change a part. He told me that it could have been done a long time ago but due to the process of troubleshooting, it took a while. Still, my last claim with my AC was a great experience and everything worked out well. I recommend AHS.

I filed an online claim to American Home Shield for a clogged drain on the washer. The plumber they sent out advised me that it wasn't covered and was gonna charge me $600 to get on the roof to clear the drain and they wouldn't send anybody else out to give me a second opinion. The contractor was horrible. He just wanted more money. He was suggesting an absurd process in order to get my issue fixed. He knew I needed my washer and I felt like he was just trying to make me do something that obviously wasn't necessary. He wouldn't even snake the drain. He refused to do it because there was no clean-out or access point. So I contracted my own plumber and he was able to get the line snaked for $85. It's working fine now and I'm back in business.
I would still recommend American Home Shield. I've always been a very big advocate. I've had them for 10 years and I've used them at least four times a year, and I've never had an issue with the contractors that they've provided. That was my first bad experience and I'm not gonna let one bad experience ruin everything. It was a contractor issue which I have complained to them about. I will never let American Home Shield send them back out to my house if I need a plumber in the future.

Two weeks ago, we paid for service to have our clothes dryer fixed. The company that they assigned to this came out and the technician didn't have any parts because he had to first see what the problem was before he could order what he needed. That was fine. They will call me when they get the part in, to set up a repair. The technician fixed it, then something else broke because he didn't check everything else that was there with the clothes dryer motor. He came out, replaces the part, he breaks the belt that he just put on. Now, American Home Shield had them come back out to put in a new belt. The technician said, "I have the belt in stock. I will be there first thing tomorrow morning, and I will put it back on. I promise." Two days later, he can't come out because they didn't have the part. Today, he got hurt on a job and has the part and they don't have any way to get the part from him because they can't send someone to go get it.
We've been going back and forth with American Home Shield on the last hour. We've had phones calling American Home Shield at the same time. My brother has been on his laptop, talking to them online, and he spent 42 minutes on the phone talking to someone that he couldn't understand, and that makes it very difficult. It's hard to understand people that have broken English. When you're in a customer service based operation you have to provide a service where people can understand who they're talking to. So eventually, we finally got an answer that they'll try and get somebody out here tomorrow morning with the belt.
I'm pissed with my experience with American Home Shield. We pay them on time every single month without fail. I want my deductible back on this service calls, and I want another $50, because I've had to keep going to the laundromat to do the clothes because they keep telling me I'm gonna have a dryer the next day, and I still don't have a clothes dryer.
Good morning Cathy,

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, my preferred method is to call. But I do not like it sometimes because American Home Shield has such a long waiting period. One time, I was on the phone for over an hour and it was ridiculous. As for the service technicians they send out, they have been respectful and informative.
But I had somebody come out to work on my ceiling fan and on his first visit, he claimed that he couldn’t do anything to it. He said that the screws were missing, so we put the screws in. But when he came out the second time, the claim was still denied and I have no idea why. I never heard back from the warranty company either. I wasn't here when he came out but the ones who were here said that the tech walked in and wouldn’t say anything to them. They said that he just took a picture and walked off. I paid $75 service fee for that and I didn't like that. Then the next thing I knew, I got a letter in the mail saying the claim was denied and that I needed to call American Home Shield. I had a leak in the basement and I did the claim with American Home Shield. But then I saw who they were gonna send out, which is a bottom-of-the-barrel feeder company. So, I cancelled the claim, and I went out and got a better company to do the work. I’ve had AHS for a long time, and they're good on the minor stuff. But if I have a real issue, I can’t have these bottom-of-the-barrel companies coming out and doing significant fixes and works because in my experience, it’s been a frustration and a problem that is built upon itself. So, I don’t use my warranty to it’s fullest because of my lack of confidence that’s been built up over time by the companies that AHS actually puts on its rosters.
When I submit my claim online, AHS sends me the company that's coming. I look up the company and it gets slaughtered on the internet on the feedback. I can tell AHS not to send the company that they initially said, but then they will send me another one that is a bottom of the barrel feeder. The good folks don’t wanna work with AHS. So, I’ll use AHS when it’s a refrigerator problem or something small, but if it’s anything of significance, I don’t use them. I can’t because the second or third order affects my time and costs more money. I don’t have the time to deal with it.
The company that AHS sent out did the assessment on my heating system. They said that I was not cleaning the filters which caused the problem. But that wasn’t the problem. The filters were about two weeks old, but they had made that assessment and that was it. It’s not because the contractor wasn’t trying, but they were just not good. So, I went and I did it on my own dime. It wasn’t the filters at all, but there was a problem with the heating coil. They replaced the heating coil and I paid for the replacement, and we’ve been fine for the last four years. In my personal opinion, most of the companies that AHS uses are not highly rated and reputable companies. I won’t be using American Home Shield in the very near future.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Then we renewed our policy and our heat went out, so I went to their website and made a claim. Navigating through the website was good and easy to understand. Putting things in and the flow of going from one option to the next was easy, as well.

It started off with the electrical breaker which was burning out, and so we had an electrician come in to replace the breaker. He said that he thought it was pulling too much current from the heating system. So, we had an HVAC guy come in to look at it, and he said the breaker was the wrong size. When my electronic air cleaner died I called AHS. Their response: An air filter/cleaner is not a component or part of the HVAC and so is not covered. Their contract says "All components and parts..." There is no mention of an air cleaner/filter as being excluded. In fact, their own website - over 6,200 pages - has no mention - ANYWHERE - that an air cleaner/filter is excluded. In fact, an air cleaner is referred to as part of the HVAC system.
So, if you wanted to be honest and upfront, would it be a better policy to DISCLOSE those items that are not included? Perhaps. But AHS prefers to take your money and then later disqualify your claim, in my case, because, "With regard to the electronic air cleaner, Section A.1 of the enclosed warranty plan states that coverage includes only those items stated as covered, excluding all others. The electronic air cleaner is not listed in the warranty plan as a covered item. The furnace is listed as a covered item in accordance with Section E.2 of the warranty plan; however, an electronic air cleaner is an independent system and is not necessary or required to heat the home." Thanks AHS for taking my money. Nothing but outright theft.
Hello, Robert. I apologize that you had that denial for your air cleaner. In our policy, if it is not specifically listed, it is not a covered item. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to further discuss your coverage concerns.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my heating and the contractor called me in less than 24 hours. They were good and professional. It was just a check and since then, it has been fine. A home warranty is very valuable and I would recommend AHS. Their service was excellent and timely and you don’t have to worry about finding somebody because they already got a network. You don’t have to worry about hiring somebody and that they’re not gonna do the right job, and if they don’t, you gotta hunt them down to go to court. With AHS, you got them on standby.
Good morning Marcella,
I would like to thank you for your feedback regarding your experience to have the heating system repaired. I hope you continue to enjoy your warranty and the customer service that we provide.

I have some ground squirrels or chipmunks and they chewed some of the wiring into the electric eye on the door. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and it went as smooth as silk. They sent out Magic City Door and my interactions with their techs were great. They found the problem, fixed it, adjusted everything, then left. I was impressed with their professionalism and that they knew what to look for. Also, the wiring has been working fine since the repair. Overall, AHS has always been Johnny-on-the-spot and I'm very satisfied with them.

My hot water went out and AHS gave me a automatic response with some company named Durango. This company had serviced my home previously and their service was horrible that I had to call and get another vendor out. So I asked if they could send another vendor out as opposed to this Durango and they gave me this company called R & S Plumbing. When they called, they had already set up the reservation and whatnot. So, I called them and said that wasn’t a good time and if they could come at this another time. They said they could. When the guy came, he first he called me and told me he was coming.
As he walked in the door, he said, “My name is Skyler. This is my wife who’s riding along with me.” It was odd and I was like if he was coming to do the work, why is he bringing his spouse? It was an unprofessional service call. I showed him where the leaks were and he said it was very minor. And then I showed him the hot water heater. I don’t even think he knew where to look at the hot water heater other than took a picture.
He was in there trying to fix the leak in the tub and was beating with a hammer. And I had a never seen a plumber beat with a hammer. His wife said that she would wait downstairs because she wants him to do his work. She kept giggling and giggling, and then my wife said, “You better get upstairs,” because every time he would hammer, she’d get real tickled. She said, “I’ve never heard of plumber beat like that. You better get up here.”
I also asked, “Do you cut the gas out when you do the hot water heater,” When he was downstairs, he didn’t say anything about it. He said, “Don’t worry about that.” He said, “I can do hot water heaters. I’ve done them smoking a cigarette.” I said, “Please, don’t smoke a cigarette while doing my gas.” He said, “No, no. I was young.” I didn’t want this guy messing around my head. It was just horrible. I never got a call that morning from American Home Shield so I called. And they said, “Oh, you have a modification that’s required and it’s gonna cost extra amount of dollars.”
We were going back and forth. I had actually called Home Depot and Lowe’s out. So many here estimates of what it would cost. And when American Home Shield said, “Yeah, we’re gonna come out,” I already knew how much it would cost. So, I was like, this is fairly easy. But then, when they told me, “We can’t do any of it because you got a modification.” So, I was sitting there and saying, “Modification?” I said, “Both of these two reputable companies with certified plumbers came out and they said nothing about a modification.”
So I asked the rep if I can get a copy of whatever their pricing was. They said, “We don’t have a copy of it. We just tell you what they said and how much it cost.” I said, “You can’t expect me to pay without seeing what I had to pay for especially if that’s not even included in the price of the water heater.” So they said, “No, we don’t do that. We don’t break down our cost." After a couple of days, finally somebody said, “This is what the water cost. This is what the labor is.” I was like, “Man, you can’t find anybody in the state of Alabama who can do that for $159 labor. “ And so, it went on. But then I texted Skyler after they told me. I said, “Can you show me a copy of your estimate since you want me to pay it?”
He got smart. He said a lot of stuff in it, that Home Depot people not certified, that he was gonna give me a commercial grade hot water heater when I’m on residential. And I’m saying, “Nope. You got a bubblehead coming after the house. Why would you put a commercial grade hot water heater in my house when this is a resident?” It was a mess and then this is the kicker. As I got that thing, the modifications were $200. So, I asked him, I said, “Well, this appears that the rest of it is all the regular stuff.” He said, “Nope. It’s all separate. I wrote everybody because I felt this was price gouging.
When another contractor came back out, I showed them the estimate. One of the contractors said, “It’s contractors like this who tries to fraud customers. There’s no way it should cost this much.” The other one went on to be more in depth about it. I told them that it's American Home Shield’s opportunity to do this. I need to get my house fixed because I have to go and stay in an apartment, because I got a premature baby that was born that we take care of, my granddaughter. I said, I haven’t hot water, and it’s leaking, and my pipes, as it stand, could freeze over with the cold weather. I called Home Depot because they were the cheapest. I said, “Can you send that certified plumber?” The lady quoted me a price. They came out. Those guys put their hot water heater in yesterday within 30 minutes with no problem at all.
The rep of AHS said, “When you get the invoice, send it to us and we’ll pay it.” And I’m just waiting on the invoice to come back through from the Continental or at Home Depot, whichever it was that charged my credit card so I can send it to her. I felt like I was redeemed then, but I won’t know until I get paid when I submit the invoice. What I don’t wanna have happened is resubmit a invoice, and then they tell me, “No, we’re not gonna pay it now.”

I had a dryer that was not working well. It was an add-on but the original issue was the washer which needed a chip for the computer system. So far, two people who came out on separate occasions were absolutely professional. They were there on time and they explained what the issues were and what parts they needed to fix them. They fixed the problems in a reasonable amount of time. In the beginning, the washer and dryer were making a whole lot of noise. It progressively got worse and after I called and had them repaired, they were almost like brand new. Given my experience, I recommend American Home Shield.

Overall, I'm very happy and satisfied with American Home Shield. It's better than most of the other warranty companies throughout the east. I've recommended friends and family to the company. Our washing machine was rattling and making noise and after I made my claim online, a contractor came out within 48 hours. He was a nice guy. He was very responsive, he got back to me, and he cared. He, in the end, resolved the issue with the rattling and shaking noise, so he did a good job.
I am happy to hear that we were able to resolve your issue Peter. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing weekend.

We’ve had American Home Shield since we lived in the house for 24 years, so we’ve had good technicians and some not so good. Over the summer, we had a problem with our cooktop and the technician who came out didn't diagnose the problem at all. I let American Home Shield know and asked them to send somebody else out, and they did. Recently, our toilet was continually running. I did a claim online and the process is good because it happened over the weekend, so I could just do it. They sent a contractor they sent out before, and he was very good. He diagnosed the problem very quickly and took care of it. All in all, American Home Shield is a good thing to have as a house gets older and our house was built in 1980, so things are getting old.

We had a previous claim on a refrigerator. We reported it to American Home Shield and paid $125 deposit back in July. But after four visits by a technician, they could not find a part. Finally, we were given the option of purchasing a new refrigerator from them or taking a cash settlement. We took the cash settlement but that didn’t happen until three weeks ago and the reason for the hold up was a combination of things. American Home Shield wanted to make sure that there was not a part available from any vendor and that took a while. They had two different technicians come to look at the refrigerator and one of them was the Sears technician. He came twice and he was excellent. But the report that was sent was not to correct parts by the manufacturer. It was just a fiasco from the very beginning and it took almost three months to get corrected.
Recently, we had a claim for the cook top and that couldn’t have gone any smoother. We had American Home Shield replace something that was burnt out in the unit and their service was very timely and professional. It took 24 to 48 hours to get the contractor dispatched and the one that they sent, Shenandoah Electric, was excellent to work with. They called in advance that they were gonna be here and when they came, they dismantled the cook top, did the diagnostics on it, and decided what parts they needed to order. Then they put the cook top right back together and ordered the parts. In three days, they came back with the parts to install them.
Other than that, we also had our refrigerator, oven and range replaced, through our warranty with AHS . We had plumbing repairs with them as well. Overall, the warranty has been pretty valuable and under recent circumstances, American Home Shield is excellent to deal with. We just had that one incident that we were not very satisfied with the timeliness.

My AC and heater system was acting up in the controls. We were in days where one day we would be using the heater and the next day using the air conditioner. And when the desired temperature was reached, the fan would set off. We filed a claim with American Home Shield online. When calling AHS, there's always so much hold so it's not a preferred method to submit a claim. The wait time to talk to a human is at least 30 minutes. I've been with AHS almost continuously for 10 years and it has always been like that. Nevertheless, of all the contractors that I've ever dealt with over the years, and there has been 15 in the past 10 years, the contractor for the AC and heater was the best. He was prompt and came on time when he said he was. He was very knowledgeable about our problem and got it fixed as expediently as possible.
Good morning David,
Thank you for your feedback regarding the HVAC claim. Your patronage is greatly appreciated over the past 10 years. I am glad to hear about the contractor that serviced you and the repairs that were completed in a timely manner.

I started with American Home Shield this year and they have been awesome. I had an issue with a heating element and Rapp’s Heating and AC came out. The tech was amazing. He didn’t do something the first time, so the unit started doing the same thing, but when he came the second time, he was in and out. I also had an appointment with Rapp's for the Friday after Thanksgiving between 8:00 and 12:00. I called on Wednesday before that and asked if there was any way that someone could get out here sooner. My grandkids were on the second floor and we had guests. The lady rep said that she would have someone call me, but no one called me on Friday between 8:00 and 12:00.
I called Rapp’s at 11:35 and the young lady said that the techs had up until 12 o’clock to call me. I said that I thought they would call half an hour before 12:00, which was 11:30, but she said no. 12:35 came and I called back, and the same young lady answered. She said that the tech was running late and I asked why she didn't call me. She said she was sorry and that the techs would call me half an hour before they come. It was a Friday and I asked if she knew what time the techs would be here, and she said no. I never heard from the tech. I called back at around 3:30 and the rep said that the tech had a family emergency. She also said that he almost lost his father and he was not gonna be able to come. I said that that was personal and that she shouldn’t even be telling me that. I also said that my family situation was an emergency.
The lady at Rapp’s lied. I had an appointment and I shouldn’t have to call back. She should have called me. I called on three occasions and she made it like my issue wasn’t an emergency and she also told me the technician’s personal business to make me feel bad. That was not my business. She should have taken into more consideration that I had an emergency also. The temperature in our house went down to around 20 degrees. I called American Home Shield and the rep I spoke to was great. She called Rapp's and a lady from Rapp’s called me back. The Rapp's rep apologized and said that the techs were not gonna be able to get out until Tuesday. I told her to make the appointment and I switched back over to the rep at American Home Shield.
Everyone I spoke to at American Home Shield in those few days was very pleasant, courteous, and generous. They answered questions and tried to help me out. One lady at American Home Shield said the service was no charge to me because it was something that Rapp’s didn’t fix and she said she could have someone come out here, but it would be a different company and I’d have to pay, which I didn’t want to do. We went out and bought little heaters to go and the big ones as well. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. I have shared them with my friends in another state. I’m glad I’m a customer.

As a realtor, I use American Home Shield all the time, not only for myself, but for my clients. Their contractors have been excellent, and when something was going on or the reps didn't give me the right information, I just called my rep and she always takes care of it. During the summer, though, the air conditioning unit needed some work done on it and it was gonna be a couple of days before their contractor could come out. And I was displeased about it. But for my most recent claim, on our heater, the contractor called us and came out immediately. The tech knew exactly what the problem was. He checked the unit thoroughly, and it has worked ever since. I'm totally happy.
