I used my home warranty policy at American Home Shield to rekey the locks on my home. The third-party locksmith (that American Home Shield provided) told me that 4 of the locks were "smart locks" and for that reason, he'd have to charge $25 extra. I called American Home Shield and spoke with an employee named Sweet (ID: **) who explained American Home Shield absolutely covers smart locks. I relayed that information to the Claims Review department - all they have done is explain to me what a smart lock is and that they will not refund the money that I was erroneously charged.
The average time I waited on the phone was north of 1 hour. It took weeks to responses back each time I called, which come via mail (not email and not phone). Consumers beware - American Home Shield are a low cost alternative and the service is terrible. They will cheat you out of money and they will try in every way to get out of reimbursing money they duly owe.
Thank you for your quick response.

I purchased the highest warranty they offered with my new home (covering all systems & Appliances). BUYER BEWARE! If you have ANY high end custom appliances in your new home just know that they will not be serviced by an appliance repair company certified to do the work! My Dacor dishwasher still is not fixed. The repair company that AHS dispatched that is "in their network" has made a total of 3 visits in just over a month now & has caused more damage than originally existed to the appliance and also to my 24 X 24 custom imported slate floors. On the 3rd visit the owner of the repair company came out & while very nice & professional - told me that he apologizes - he has been doing repairs for over 24 years & they should have never been sent to work on this high end appliance.
He told me that only a repair company certified to service any of the items in my kitchen (Dacor & SubZero) should ever be sent out & that he would be conveying that to AHS. Once he did AHS assigned another company to my repair who is not certified/qualified on Dacor appliances either. After holding to speak to an actual person at AHS for over an hour & spoke with the rudest customer service rep I have ever encountered - she cut me off constantly while I tried to explain the total situation and expressed my concern that I have already had 3 visits bill against my annual cap for this appliance by a company they assigned simply because it was within their network.
My dishwasher is not repaired - has additional damage done to the gasket seal that didn't exist before they attempted repairs - and my floors are now damaged as well. No apology - no "I'm so sorry you are still dealing with this issue. Let me see what I can do" - just a "hold on & let me check on something" was her response. After additional hold time she returned to the line and just stated "I've checked and we (AHS) don't require a repair company to actually be certified by the manufacturer for repair - as long as they say they can do it & they are in our network we dispatch them out".
I asked to speak to a manager to explain the ridiculous over one month now with 3 visits & no repair but additional damage to my appliance & home - as well as my concerns with these counterproductive visits counting against my appliance limit when the owner of the company himself told me & reported to AHS that they should have never been dispatched to begin with - and I was told by the "Customer Service Rep" that no manager was available. She asked if I would like a call back from a manager. I indicated that I most definitely would like a call back by a manager. Over 24 hours & I am still waiting! I wonder how long I will have to hold to reach a manager today!
Extremely dis-satisfied customer and this is my very first interaction with this company - aside from a random sales call trying to sell me another year of coverage up front at a "discounted rate". Thank goodness I told them I will be happy to renew at full price at the end of my contract term if I choose to do so but that I would rather wait the year to see how the company handles any service requests over that time before I make that decision. Safe to say they are not off to a great...even good start!
Best advice to anyone considering this company - if your home has high end custom appliances this is NOT the company for you! The one company in my area that is certified to service Dacor only charges 95.00 for the initial visit/assessment -they then give you an estimate of any parts needed and labor needed - at a rate of 95.00/hour. If you proceed with the repair the initial 95.00 assessment fee goes towards your total repair costs. Seems reasonable to me since I know from the previous repair company dispatched that their service rate for each time they come out with AHS is 250.00 per trip!
Advice # 2 - DO NOT think for one second that it will be easy to speak to a person with any concerns with an ongoing issue Advice #3 Don't think for a second that once you are "lucky" enough to speak to someone at AHS that they will be at all helpful. Advice #4 Don't think for a second that "Management" exists or will call you back in a timely manner - I mean you are just their "customer" right & they clearly have better things to do.
Advice # 5 Don't think that they are dispatching actual qualified people to perform the work... As soon as you see the company they have assigned to you do your own research before scheduling them to come to your home as AHS does not properly Vet these companies - they are just looking for companies who say they can do the work and are willing to contract with AHS at a slightly reduced rate. Advice # 6 Don't expect AHS to make things right in these situations with regard to crediting you back the amount of money WASTED against YOUR annual maximum because they did not sufficiently do THEIR homework upfront. Advice # 7 If you're still undecided - re read #1 -7 & good luck!

4 months ago, we made a call for a plumbing issue, but due to it being a holiday weekend, we didn't get a call for service for several days. We were finally able to do the repairs ourselves and cancelled the service but still got charged the 100.00 fee. I have been promised multiple times that I would be reimbursed, but have not been. The same issue came up again this past weekend, and someone was sent out again. I was told that I will still be charged the service fee, but again promised that the other fee would be reimbursed soon.
When the plumber arrived, he said the only way to access the problem would be to create a new clean out, which would not be covered by the warranty and would be 950.00. I called another company who came out and fixed the problem for 200.00. So, we are out for that fix, plus 200.00 for both service fees that never occurred. I have tried to call the company but am always put on hold in excess of 45 minutes and find no other way to communicate this other than writing this horrible review.
Good evening Shayne,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service as well as the cost paid to repair the clan out. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issues that you experienced.

Took out warranty 10/2017 and was told to wait 30 days from purchase of warranty to submit claim for problem with fridge and did just that. Technician sent out 12/2017 paid $100 deductible. Technician called AHS informing part needed and AHS denied Tech ever called. 1 month goes by, contacted Tech and was told AHS never approved part needed and he's no longer affiliated with them due to not being paid and owing him over 7 grand he's been waiting on for over 9 months. After we were told this by the Tech and once again called AHS they gave us another contractor who denied providing us service because of the same reason as the first Tech, they were owed quite a bit of money from AHS and had not been paid therefore they would not be servicing any warranties through them.
We once again called AHS and was told they didn't have anyone to service our fridge and for us to find a technician on our own, pay them, submit the bill to them (AHS) and they'd reimburse us. Why would we do that and they haven't paid your service vendors? This went on all the way through the end of August 2018 with no outcome at all. Keep your money! If you actually do not have vendors to cover warranties that have been purchased by consumers you have committed fraud. I believe this company is a fraud and I will still be filing a complaint with the BBB. Consumers be careful. And yes, when you're assisted with claims they are foreigners from overseas.

My heater wasn't working properly and I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. Navigating their website was very easy and it was quick because I got a call back within a couple of hours after submitting the claim. Then the contractor came out earlier than my original time which was actually better for my schedule. The contractor was very professional and efficient. He replaced everything needed to be replaced and he explained and showed me everything. He was able to fix the heater on the same day. He was my go-to guy and I would recommend him anytime.

Updated on 01/23/2019: Loss heat on December 18, 2018. As of January 22, 2019 new furnace has not been installed. Four winter weeks without replacement. Constant excuses from contractor as to problems getting and scheduling time for repair. Calls to AHS ineffective. There apparently is no one to speak with that will help solve this. They only refer to notes on file. "Specialist" and customer service I have spoken to are ineffective.
Original Review: On Dec 18, 2018 our gas furnace went out. AHS was called and after two days of no response a second call was made to complain. A second contractor was assigned who did arrive within the designated 24 hours. That is where the cooperation of AHS stopped with this new contractor and our home. A replacement unit was sent initially, but was the incorrect size. Continued attempts by our contractor to rectify this and have a correct unit sent has met with constant delays, lengthy waiting on the phone, and at times no response at all. I must credit our contractor (Temp Control) with doing all that his time allows to work with us. However, he is frustrated, as are we, with the lack of cooperation from AHS.
Today, Jan. 8 2019 we are entering our THIRD week of winter without a furnace. Tonight, AHS claims that their "system was down" and no business could be conducted. Electric space heaters are being used in sub freezing temps. We can't imagine what our electric bill will be. Our experience with AHS has been unreal and disappointing. AHS needs to revise their processing procedures and their communication with contractors and clients.
Good morning Thomas,
Your concerns regarding the delay in service are greatly understood. I would be glad to assist and reach a resolution to have the new AC system installed.

After 14 days of no hot water and no heat, I paid out of my own pocket to have a plumber make the repair. AHS sent out 4 contractors who had no idea how to fix a tankless water heater. I am requesting AHS reimburse me the cost I paid for the repair. So far it has been a battle and I would NEVER recommend this company. Five (5) months earlier I had a claim for a microwave repair that as of yet has not been completed. BEWARE!!! Do not go with this company!!!
Hello, Jane. Thank you for providing me with the invoice for reimbursement.

I called in a claim with American Home Shield and I talked to somebody there. I told them when they could come out because I only had a couple of days available. A man from Intercity Plumbing came to the door and said he was the plumber. The contractor figured out that the circulating pump on the water heater wasn’t functioning correctly. He made the circulating pump work and he told me what he did. Everything is operating fine now and my wife was very happy she got hot water. AHS is available when I need them. They take care of all kinds of problems. I’d tell my neighbors they should definitely get AHS.
I'm to hear that we have resolved your issue Robert. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

The furnace in our house stopped working. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and their site was fine. However, it would have been nicer to try and get a repairman out sooner than three days after I submitted the request. Other than that, the repairman who came was great. He was able to get the problem resolved mostly in one visit as he needed to grab a part and had to wait until the furnace store open to check on availability. It took him a few hours to complete the repair, and since then, the furnace has been working fine.

When the light switch in my bathroom had a short in it, I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. And I was very frustrated because the first time I went online to submit the claim, the first technician called and he told me that they would have to come out the day he called. I was at work at that time and no one was at the house. I thought he would call and schedule an appointment. Instead, he told me that if he couldn’t do it that day, he wouldn’t be able to get to me since he was going on vacation. He told me to call AHS and have the service canceled.
So, I tried to go online and cancel and it wouldn’t allow me to. I attempted to call to speak with a representative to cancel and I called for three days straight and could not get anyone. I finally called the billing department and spoke with someone. Of course, they could not help me, and they tried to connect me with the correct department. The rep said that she would stay on the line with me. And so we stayed on the line at least half an hour, and I told her that it was exactly what I had been experiencing. I tried to go back online and see if I could cancel. It finally allowed me to cancel and I was able to schedule with someone else. That experience of trying to book someone was awful. The next contractor that came out was very nice. He came out and did the repairs and everything worked out just fine. He was very punctual.
Even my first experience with them with getting someone for my AC, I called back to try to get another contractor because I just wasn’t comfortable with the first contracted service that they were sending to me. I had done research on them and I was not comfortable with them, and it was almost like the rep was trying to force him to come to me, and I didn't want him to come and do the work on my house. I didn’t have a pleasant experience, and that was my very first service call.
And then, the next one with electrical, that experience happened with not being able to get impressed with anyone at American Home Shield. So, now, I have another one that’s in with plumbing and the guy is there trying to take care of my plumbing. I don't know if the items are gonna be covered and I'm hoping that it is with American Home Shield.

I had two light switches that needed to be replaced so I went online and requested service from American Home Shield. They have a great website. Then, a gentleman from City First Electric came and he replaced the light switch. Our interaction went well and it was very professional and very easy. When I had a plumbing claim, I had to have the contractors come back and repair something that they did. I had to call AHS and talk to them but trying to get them on the phone was an issue. But once I've gotten them, we worked through things. So far, everything has been working fine and I recommend American Home Shield.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and its service has always been excellent. I like to submit claims over the phone and when I call, they give me a website to submit online. Years ago, it used to take five minutes maximum. Lately, it’s been taking at least 30 to 45 minutes to get somebody on the phone. But once you have somebody to talk to, it’s a good experience. They’re very courteous. Also, the contractors are very professional. Recently, cold air wasn’t coming out in one of the vents. The flap where the air comes out that should open and close when the air comes on and off needed to be replaced, and Rapp's was able to fix it. I asked them to leave the shoes by the door because we don’t like to walk inside the house with shoes, and they were happy to do that.

The pilot light had gone out in my hot water heater so it wasn’t keeping the water hot. I called American Home Shield and talked to a person then they assigned J.F. Whitlow, Jr. & Sons Inc. to me. It was on a Friday so I assumed that it was gonna be Monday when they would call me back. But once they sent me the email with the number of the company, I called them the next day and left them a message to make sure everything would happen. They called me back that Monday and they went out that Wednesday. They looked at the hot water heater and said I would need a new hot water heater. I asked when they thought it would be in. It was Tuesday then and they said it should be in by Thursday or Friday at the latest. It was a rental property and the tenant there has a five-year-old son who had to go to school. But they had no hot water and she couldn't give her son a bath.
The hot water heater hadn’t come by that Friday and when the tenant called me on Monday, she said she still didn't have any hot water. So I called J.F. Whitlow and they said it still hadn't come in. They told me it should be in any time. But I called back on the Friday of that following week and they said it still hadn't come in. They were saying that they were waiting on American Home Shield so I called the warranty company. But they said that all the contractor had to do was to go to Home Depot and pick the unit up. They didn't need to wait for it to come in. In the meantime, my tenant had been without hot water for two weeks. I called J.F. Whitlow back to tell them what they had to do and they said okay but that they couldn't get there on a Friday. And since they didn't work on Saturdays and they were booked on Monday, it would be Tuesday of the following week before they would get out there.
They went out that Tuesday and put it in. But once they did that, my tenant told me her heating was not working. It was working fine prior to them coming though. So I contacted a contractor to come out there to look at my furnace. When I was talking to him, I told him that the hot water heater had been replaced and before he came out and charged me, he told me that when you have a gas hot water heater and a gas furnace, there is a gas line and there are pipes next to both of those. He said that when you have to cut the gas off, it would cut off the heat for a while and you would have to bleed the air out of the line because if air gets in the line and you don’t bleed it out first, the gas is not gonna get there to ignite the power in the furnace and the heat won’t work.
So I called J.F. Whitlow back and told them that the heating was not working. The people there were like, “Yeah, it was working fine.” So they sent the plumbing people back to take a look at it. They said they had bled the line twice but the pilot light was still not lighting up the furnace. They said that there was nothing else they could do. They were trying to say it had nothing to do with the furnace not working. So I had to put in another claim to get the furnace fixed. I called American Home Shield and they said there would be another $75 charge for them to come back out because J.F. Whitlow was saying that one had nothing to do with the other.
The guy who came out to fix the furnace, Tony, said they had nothing to do with the plumbing with the same company and that that was a totally different side. He was like, “I understand your problem. I’ma get you taken care of.” He said that they didn't handle business like the plumbing side. He came out the same day and told me what was wrong. The gas line going to the furnace was bent and they had to replace that part. Tony said that it was a part that he had to get from the dealer and that he probably wouldn't be able to get it from the dealer until the next day. But then he called me back that same evening. That was a Friday and he said that he had gone to the dealer that day and that he had gotten the part. He came back to put it on and said the heater was working fine.
But I had to do a separate call just to get my furnace fixed. And at that point, my tenant had gone two and a half weeks without hot water and then she had days without heat. So I had to get things taken care of. I told her that for that whole month, because of the inconvenience, I was not gonna charge her any rent. So in addition to me having to pay on that side and for the inconvenience that my tenant had without heat and hot water, I lost $1,585 on the house.
Also, my thing is that when the plumbing guys cut the gas line on the hot water heater side, they must have bent the part that's going to the furnace. Those two guys were young so they may not have the tricks. Tony was an older guy and had a family so he knew the situation that my tenant and her son was in. I want to commend him too. He did an excellent job.
Having a warranty is really valuable. My mom moved out of our house in March and I had put a warranty on her house as well. Then we put some new tenants here in May and the guy said that the faucet was dripping. I forgot all about putting a home warranty and I ended up purchasing a faucet and putting a sink, and having the plumbing guy put it in. I spent about $500 on it. After that, the guy said that he was swelling a foul odor in the house. It was almost like something was dead in the house. So we hired somebody to go find it. But it turned out to be that the brass pipes were a little corroded. The house was built in '59 and back then, they used brass pipes. I cut out all the brass and put in all new PVC piping under of my mom’s house. That went to close to $4,000. I forgot that I had American Home Shield. I could’ve saved myself close to $4,500.
Good afternoon Theodore,
I understand your concerns regarding your experience to have the hot water heater repaired and the non covered cost on the property repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and address the issues.

I called American Home Shield when I submitted my claims and when I had to make one on Christmas Day, it was handled so proficiently. The contractor, SWAT Plumbing, got my leak in the bathroom fixed the next morning and that was amazing. I was very pleased about that, so I’m happy. I also had a toilet that wouldn’t flush. I had a doctor’s appointment and the contractor said that they would call me and let me know when I was next in line so that I could do my appointment and I didn’t have to cancel. That was helpful and they were wonderful. SWAT Plumbing fixed each thing beautifully on both times. I liked their follow-through and they were very good about not making you stay at home. The toilet in the master bath was leaking at the bottom. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield then they sent me an email saying that I should be contacted within 24 to 48 business hours by a contractor. And it was in less than 24 hours. The techs were great as well. They were on time and they called ahead to let me know that they'd call me on the day of the appointment to give me a better time limit. They were also within their time limit and they were efficient, very nice, and professional.
They replaced the wax ring underneath the toilet. We had had someone out there before, not through our home warranty, who apparently didn’t do it right and that was why we were continuing to have problems. But since that has happened, we haven’t had a problem. Overall, American Home Shield has been very efficient for us. You can file your claim online and they get out there quickly. My experience with American Home Shield was very good. I filed for a refrigerator and a dishwasher repair, and did it in one call. The process was easy and the guy from a company called Appliance Connection who came out was very good. The dishwasher had a small leak underneath and it was a part that was worn out, and he fixed that right away. The refrigerator had a built-in water and ice dispenser. If you dispensed, it wouldn’t shut off like it was supposed to. He assessed the problem and determined it was a control panel type of thing in there. And so he ordered it, scheduled another appointment, came back, put it in and got it going with no problem. Since then, both the refrigerator and the dishwasher have been working fine. Constantly having trouble communicating with or contacting American Home Shield has been irritating. When I call in, there’s a 30-minute wait, if not, longer just to talk to somebody. I’ve not been able to get into my account and no one has been able to assist me with that. So when my refrigerator was running really loudly, I had no choice but to use the phone to submit my claim. Nevertheless, the service was fine. GE Appliances came out and the contractor did an excellent job. He was really courteous and professional, and he knew what he was doing. He examined the refrigerator, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. The refrigerator is running much better now and I don’t even hear it running.

About a month ago, the sewage lines were all backed up and submitting a claim for it over the phone with American Home Shield was easy. Plus, the tech that they sent was excellent. I wanted to see what was going on and he was open to let me watch. We all tackled the issue together and it was taken care of quickly and easily. Since then, everything has been working out flawlessly. AHS has worked out so far.

I had a couple of things that I filed a claim to American Home Shield. Initially, it was due to our microwave and since our dishwasher wasn't working, we had it checked as well. The first time I submitted a claim, I was not happy with the experience. But after finally getting a claim through, it worked out and I was happy with it. After submitting the claim, I got an email from the contractor within an hour. They were efficient, polite and very helpful. I would like to use them again if I needed to. But they have to replace two items and we are still waiting for it.
AHS need to improve on their call volume. It's just too high. One day, I've been trying to get through them for four hours. But when I called in recently, they now have an option where you can have them call you back if the wait time is too long. I appreciate that option because it worked out well. That way, I didn’t have to keep holding and get frustrated. At one point, I was considering to no longer use their service but after using them and it worked out well, I will continue on them at this point.

The switch lights in my bathrooms didn't work as well as the garage switch. I called American Home Shield and I was told that they'd send somebody before Christmas. The person came in and I was very, very disappointed. He couldn’t find what was wrong. I took him in the attic and I climbed with him. He took stuff and pushed it aside and left without putting them back. He said he had to go someplace else and charged me with $180 or $280. He was very unprofessional and I was so disgusted. My son called AHS and told them to send somebody else. The second person who came in took less time than the guy that was here the first time, he found the problem and he fixed it. He was very polite, very patient, nice and kind. Everything was so professional and he did an excellent job. He didn’t rush and he finished his job. Since the repair, the switch lights have been excellent.

I am a very nosy person and I wanna see everything that's done in my house and he allowed me to sit there. He allowed me to ask questions. Since the repair, everything has been operating perfectly. Everyone should have an American Home Shield warranty. You're dumb if you don't have it.

A young man from Lubbock Appliance Repair came out for the dryer that has a belt that was broken and wasn't working. He had everything that he needed. He cleaned a bunch of lint that had collected in the dryer and commented that whoever had fixed it the last time had left a bunch of screws. He was very thorough on what he was doing. The dryer has been functioning great since the repair. I would recommend American Home Shield and I prefer submitting a claim online because a lot of times, the problem happens at odd hours or holiday.

American Home Shield’s online site is very user-friendly as well as easy to navigate and to schedule. I went there and filed a claim for our dryer. We liked the contractor who came. He was very thorough, took his time in doing the work and was very careful about everything that he worked for us. Though he had to order parts, he came back two days later which was quicker than I thought. Since the repair, the dryer is working like new again.

I have never written a review about a company but I feel I must now. After a few years of paying premium I had a claim. American Home Shield charged my credit card 100.00 to file the claim, and then refused to pay the claim and would not refund the 100.00, so I feel like I have been scammed. I still feel that home insurance is good to have but better research may be needed in order to find a good company.

I have American Home Shield. Have had it for 8 months and 12 days ago my furnace stopped working, I put in a service call a contractor came out and after looking at my furnace for exactly 5 mins did not pull apart anything and tell me and my husband we need a new furnace and it’s gonna cost us 1000$ out of pocket. We knew he was full of crap since my husband is knows a little bit about our furnace and that he did not even look at our heat exchanger to see if it was bad. So Home Shield says to replace our furnace they will pay 492$ and we will have to pay 1000$ and this contractor is very rude!
Obviously I am upset, what is the point in having insurance if I have to spend 1000$. We ask for a second opinion. These guys come out years apart our entire furnace and says it just needs a blower motor. I’m assuming that was more than Home Shield wanted to spend because they sent it back to the first contractor because obviously the way he wrote it up was in their benefit, meanwhile it’s January in Ohio and we have been completely without heat for 12 days now and them still giving us the run around and we have called them at least 5 times and every time we call we have to have them call us back because it’s a 40 min wait or longer because they have a high call volume! This is how they treat their customers!!! Shame on them!!

We have had a Home Warranty with AHS for over 5 years. We have paid out monthly fees and used the warranty as prescribed. Recently we found out that our policy had bee canceled and found out that it was done due to an audit on how much we have used our policy and how much money was spent. We called AHS to renew our policy and found out that due to the audit, we would be allowed to have a different policy that was 40% more expensive with decreased level of coverage. I understand insurance companies raising premiums when policies are used more than normal, but I don't understand how they increase the monthly fees and then decrease the coverage. When we asked the operator to explain this, it was clear that they did not understand. Needless to say, we will find another company that doesn't penalize customers for using their warranty for its intended purpose.
Good evening Derek,
I understand your concerns regarding the premium increase. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is easy. I just called it in and told them I was dealing with my plumbing. I had a blockage in my sink and it was draining into my bathtub. They told me that somebody will call me back, which Plumb Genius did. And they scheduled an appointment for the plumber to come out. He scheduled something for the next day but something happened. He was supposed to come in the morning but he came in the afternoon, but it was still great. When the plumber came out, he went straight to the issue and saw the problem. He used the snake to go ahead and break through. He then came back and told me what was the issue. He also quickly answered a lot of questions that I have about this plumbing issue.
Because of my experience with AHS, I tell everybody about it. I tell them that if they don't have a home warranty, they need one. I'd then tell them about how much it is. But in the long run, when something breaks down, they only have to pay a certain amount of money. And I do like the part now that I didn’t have to write a check out to the person that comes. They ask whether or not you’re gonna pay before or 48 hours after the person has come out and I like that a lot.

I called American Home Shield a couple of days before Christmas. I went outside to feed the horse, and I noticed there was smoke coming out the AC unit. I got over there, and the fans weren't running, but I could smell burnt wire coming out. So I immediately turned the heater off and didn't run it for days until someone came out. The guy came three days after Christmas and he fixed it. I didn't need to run anything until a couple of days after he left. But when I did, the unit was so loud. You could hear it outside. It's so loud that when I'm sleeping at night and it cuts on, I can hear it, and I can't go back to sleep. The guy came back out here for the AC. He said that he couldn't help me because it was an older unit. I told him that it wasn't making that noise until he came to fix it. But he replied that he couldn't do anything else.
American Home Shield is a rip off. I was not happy with my service. I am trying to get a hold of someone from them for 30 minutes a day and I have not been able to get through. It is very frustrating. I'm trying to get a hold of somebody who knows what they're doing except for that same guy twice. I'm not getting anywhere with that guy. Any time I go online, they want me to pay another $75 deductible, and I'm not doing that because the guy who came and fixed it made the AC worse.

The air conditioning people American Home Shield sent me the first five times was a joke. I finally made them change companies because they kept jerking me around after five visits. One of them only wanted to sell me an air conditioner. Meanwhile, the refrigerator guy stayed on his cellphone the whole time talking in a foreign language. I was very dissatisfied with both of those.
I usually submit my claims with AHS online, and the process is much easier because you can never get through on the telephone. The telephone is horrible. I recently had two claims, one with my dishwasher and one with my garbage disposal. The contractor sent out by AHS was fantastic, on time and professional. He fixed the issue and he didn’t waste any time, didn’t chat, and didn’t stay on his cellphone as some workers do.

Then SDL Plumbing called me and we set up an appointment. This happened on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the company came out Monday so it wasn't bad. In addition to that, the person who came out was nice and professional, and he had the garbage disposal replaced. He showed it then to me before he was gone. They did not look at it and told me that it was a power surge because there was one in the area. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that it was not true. Then, AHS sent another pool company out to verify Alex Pool’s story and it was not true. There was no evidence of any kind of surge in my box and they got it all worked out.

It has been the worst experience ever with American Home Shield and I would feel horrible if anybody that I cared about went through what I went through. Our faucets are all TouchPlus and they’re beautiful, but my stainless-steel Moen kitchen faucet was replaced with a piece of plastic. They do commercial grade. I work in the building and I don’t know where anybody would put the faucet that I have in my home right now in an office complex or in a gas station bathroom. But I had a Moen that was $80 taken out and the plumber who was sent output in a set that was no more than $25. It’s the ugliest and I don’t care about that kind of stuff. I looked at it and thought that was insane. It was fine at that time, but then my husband came home, saw it and said no. However, there wasn't anything we could do and American Home Shield doesn’t offer any upgrade fees.
The plumber left and there was a leak that I didn’t know about that he caused. But over the weekend when I went to check things out, it was sopping wet underneath my sink. We have a very old house and it’s wood underneath the sink, so the leak is going to cause damage for sure. I have no clue if they’re gonna be repairing that when they come back today, but I am way too nice about it because our house is older and I understand that people get into a trap with a much bigger issue. I have pictures that I will be putting up on their website as soon as he leaves my home today. But what’s really sad is that they’re very proud to represent American Home Shield, and when you go to their website, it’s the first thing that’s booming across the bottom of their link.
I called American Home Shield to let them know what was going on, and I spoke to four different customer service professionals, the last of which was a team lead. They’re trained to say, “Let me repeat what you’ve just said” and it’s really annoying. But I’ve been in customer service since I was 16 and I’m 40 years old, and I’m not stupid. So I stopped her 35 times to say if they would say that one more time, they should not have to repeat to me.
The plumber was supposed to come out on Thursday but he got held up at a three-hour job. Then on Friday, it was raining here in Jacksonville, and it was dark. I didn’t hear from him all day, so at 6 o’clock, I told him that he could come the next morning of Saturday. Then he was on his way Saturday at 12:30 but he was having some issues with his truck. I never heard back from him until 6:30 Saturday night and this morning, I called the main office about 35 times from work. Finally, the owner picked up and he said that Brandon was going up to my house at noon today to fix it.
I followed up on this issue the entire time. I have no flexibility with my job and I had to take a half-day vacation. I was gonna call American Home Shield once I go home to wait for him because I need to speak to someone in the United States. The other problem with American Home Shield is that they have their call services out in India and the people don’t know how to speak English. I’m paying American Home Shield $45 a month and I paid $100 for this guy to come out. I’ve wasted my own personal time, in general, and on top of that, I paid $70 for my own faucet. I’ve had to pay way more than I should’ve.
This experience really makes me think about having a home warranty. If I have a brand-new air-conditioning unit, there’s no reason why I should have a warranty because I would rather have Roto-Rooter or someone with a really good name. All home warranty companies are the same. They use little companies all over the cities that they’re in and they find people that literally only have a Facebook website. That’s my biggest annoyance with all of this and it’s been happening right now. American Home Shield has a 4.8 out of 5 stars and they’re supposed to be one of the best, but I am so outraged and I feel like I’m owed my money back for my faucet. I won’t be using American Home Shield again after my contract is out, and I will definitely be shopping.

Our water heater leaked all over the garage. It was scary because we had to call the gas company and find out what to do because it could blow. I reported it online to AHS and I also called them. After being on hold for about an hour and 15 minutes they said they would get it done but they weren't real nice. They didn't have any professionalism. Sometimes, when you call AHS and you have a claim, it sounds like you're getting somebody out of the country that can barely speak English. They're not real problem solvers. So you have to really call back a different time and see if you can get American people to talk to you.
With the water heater, it was really weird, because it was a year short of their warranty running out. But Tony was a nice person, and he did go and pick it up and help me with the warranty part of it. They charged him $50 to pick it up because that was a prorated warranty, and I thought that was good. But I don't know if American Home Shield is gonna reimburse him the $50 or not. He was really worried about it. There was no way they could fix it. I understand that I have to pay for the permits and stuff like that, and that cost me over $275, and then $125 to American Home Shield. Tony wanted me to pay him the $50, and I said no and to bill AHS for it because it was a pretty good deal for them, that they didn't have to buy a new one. The replacement process took about a week. The tech was very professional, very friendly and he did a good job.

The experience with American Home Shield's contractor, Quality Comfort went well, although the problem had recurred, so they have to come back. On the other hand, the experience with American Home Shield itself went less well. It is very difficult to reach American Home Shield by phone. You can reach them online and that’s fine, but all you get are automated responses. The first time I went online and booked the claim, they put me in touch with a service provider whose office base is literally two and a quarter hours away.
They do not service my geography, but they made a special attempt about once every seven days or so to show up in our area. It is an automated system that American Home Shield has and I finally got to speak to an agent, and I said that it was not going to work because the service provider is two and a quarter hours away. They were not gonna show up. The rep said that there was nothing she could do about it and I said, “Okay. Let me speak to a manager.”
She put me on hold for about six minutes then finally came back and said that she got someone to talk to me. What she actually did was dump me back into a queue where I waited in a call queue for about 10 minutes, listening to whatever background was going on on that, until I finally hung up. I was then able to reach the provider and I asked them, “Okay. When is the earliest you can come?” Sure enough, they gave me a date that was roughly eight days later. I said that it was not going to work. The provider said that there was nothing they could do and that I gotta call American Home Shield and tell them that it was the date they were giving me and AHS got to make the change.
I had to go back into AHS' crazy 800 number system, wait for another 15 to 20 minutes, and finally got to speak to someone. That time, because I had called the provider and the provider told me it was gonna take eight days, AHS finally was able to give me the person that I suggested in the first place who is about 10 minutes away from my home. Quality Comfort showed up the next day.
The problem with American Home Shield is there is no way to talk to anybody. It happens every time and once you get through to someone they are not prepared to listen. There’s no way to talk to anybody and you get the runaround. In my opinion, the service is very poor on the phone to find and reach someone or electronically. If they were to electronically show you, “Okay, here’s a choice of three providers in your area. Which one is closest? Which one would you like,” and you could pick it, then that would be a significant enhancement. But right now, even though they’ve got a provider, Quality Comfort that’s less than 10 or 15 minutes from my house, they keep on insisting on trying to connect me to someone who is literally two and a quarter hours away near Charlotte, North Carolina.
After many years that I’ve had three homes covered by AHS -- one rental home and two personal homes, but because I can’t get through, I’m contemplating terminating the service. I haven't as yet, but I might and I might go to a different provider. If you can’t get through at a point when you need it, then what’s the point of having the service? Nobody is prepared to listen. Quality Comfort did a great job. They were fantastic and very responsive and were very good at what they do, but the trouble is American Home Shield was gonna connect me with someone in Charlotte or wherever near Charlotte and there was nobody I could ever talk to that could understand and resolve the issues in a timely way.

The disposal was not working properly and it was extremely loud. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out Thomas Brothers Plumbing. Brett, the technician, first looked through the top portion of the disposal and said that it was rusting. Then, he opened it underneath and checked all the plumbing. Everything was tight and looked good. After that, he ran the machine, ran some water down through it, and it was really loud. As he was looking underneath, he said that the ball bearings were starting to fail and it was not gonna last. So, he went ahead and replaced the entire unit with a good one.
At the time, he originally had another disposal in his truck and it was a 1/3 power which was the one that was failing. But I had recommendations from a previous plumber that I used in my prior home to get an ISE 1/3 power and not to get anything less than a 1/2 power. I mentioned that to Brett and he said that I might have to pay the difference on it but that it depended on my contract with American Home Shield. He also said that he didn't have one, so he could either go get one or I'd have one that I already picked out in mind. He also said that it would be fine if I wanna find one on my own and to just give him a call. So, he went ahead and left.
The next day. I was out running errands and I told him I would get one the next day and call him. But he called me before I even made it to Home Depot and said not to worry about it as he'd go get one for me. Then, he clarified for me the model and brand that I was looking for, and said he'd pick up that half horsepower one for me and call me with the installation time. So, he picked the one up, called me back later that day, and scheduled to install it the following day. When he arrived, he brought a 3/4 horsepower instead of the half power. It’s the newest one on the market for the InSinkErator brand, which was what I asked for. He installed it and everything was great. American Home Shield covered the entire cost and there was no difference that I had to pay.
Prior to that claim on my disposal, I originally called AHS for the dishwasher. The dishwasher was original with the house, was about 11 years old, and was not cleaning dishes even though we were rinsing them before putting them in. They would still come out with scum on them. So, I called AHS and they sent a technician out. He did a few different tests on it and said that the control unit needed to be replaced. He said he would be talking to American Home Shield, tell them what was wrong, and confirm that ordering the part was covered. He did that but he never called me back and told me anything.
I tried to contact American Home Shield to see what was going on and I had to call them three times. I also logged online and talked to somebody via their chat system before the service tech called me back. He said that he ordered the part and it’d be here by the end of the week. I originally placed my original service request in November and the part arrived three weeks later. Then the tech came and installed that. He said it should be fine and asked me to go ahead and use it. But I didn’t have any dishes to do at the time, so he told me to run it and let him know what happened. Since it’s a Bosch dishwasher, I figured I’d treat it like my prior Bosch that I had at my other house. It scraped off everything but didn’t rinse the dishes. It didn’t wash them, just put them all in, and they came out dirty. So, I called the tech again and told him that it wasn’t working. I had to call him three times and leave him voicemails. Still, I didn’t get a call from him.
So, I had to contact American Home Shield to tell them about the situation. They got ahold of him and he finally reacted and came out on on the 18th of December. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it and that he'd call American Home Shield to tell them that the control unit should’ve fixed it. But it didn’t and he was just gonna list it as low performance. I asked him pointblank before he left to please call me back with the status of his conversation with American Home Shield but he never did.
I ended up calling American Home Shield again after having logged into the account and it still said that the claim was under review online. But when I spoke with one of their representatives, he said that it was marked as closed and everything was functioning. But I told them that it was not functioning and I was handwashing all of my dishes. The rep then said that he'd call and get a more definitive diagnosis of it so that if it needed to be replaced, they'd know what the diagnosis was. I agreed and told him to let me know but I still haven’t heard from him. This was before Christmas when I called them and it’s January now. This tech also told me that he’s one of the primary local techs for this area for all of the kitchen appliances, except for the dishwasher because that’s considered plumbing. But I would never want him back for anything. If my refrigerator died, there’s no way that I’d call him back.

The heat pump wasn’t working. The guy AHS sent came out the next day. He said that the circuit breaker was probably bad and that I'd have to call an electrician. I called an electrician and he said that the circuit breaker was good. It was a blown fuse outside on the heat pump. He put some new fuses in, but the heat pump still didn’t work. The contractor has been out several times, ordering parts, and it's still not working. Another time, I had called AHS. I had a leak upstairs, in the bathtub. An elbow that came out. The guy was here for about five minutes. He looked at it and said I needed a whole new tub. All it was was a drain though and I fixed it myself.
Hi, Dennis. It was great speaking to you today. I do hope the new issue is resolved quickly. The email is headed your way.

My sockets weren’t working in my garage and outside, and then I found out, in both of my bathrooms, too. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and it went really smoothly. It took three days, however, and I was kinda disappointed about that. Nevertheless, the guy that they sent out from DT Electric was great and very professional. He knew what the problem was right away and fixed it, so I’m very happy. The only issue I had was he was here very early in the morning. It was fine, but I didn’t get a call that he was en route or anything. Also, I was still in my pajamas. Still, my experience with American Home Shield was really good. I have a rental property in California and I was thinking about opening a policy on that house as well.

We lost all the power in the outlets in the garage. I could turn on lights and stuff, but the outlets to plug something in were not working. We submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and someone reached out to us quickly. It took about a day or two. It wasn't an emergency, so when we put in the claim, it took a while before the electrician came over. He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. He was on task and did what he needed to do. The issue had something to do with the circuit breaker. Since the repair, the performance of the outlets has been perfect.

He had to check it out and determine that he needed a new part and then he came back and installed the part in 10 minutes.

We have a heater situation and it's been going on for about a month and a half. The first two times that I called American Home Shield, the heater was working when the contractor leaves and everything was okay. But it just goes off once in a while. That last time I called American Home Shield, they never called me back. By the time the three days had gone by, I was ready to call them again but all of a sudden, the heater was working.
My husband is in hospice, so we had to go out and buy a bunch of space heaters to keep the house warm because of this silly heater situation. The techs were very nice, and they tried. When they leave, it’s working. But it works for two or three days and then stops again, and then it comes back on. They changed the thermostat, and then it worked, but the same pattern happened. It worked for three or four days and then stopped. It was off for about five or six days, and then it started again. But overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. This situation is screwy and I don’t think anybody knows what’s going on, so I can’t blame anybody for this.

There was a leaky faucet and two faucets that were loose. The water pressure valve also needed to be re-adjusted. Submitting the claim to AHS online was easy with respect to the faucet. However, I wanted to explain my problem with the valve but I couldn't do it. I had to call them and explain to AHS what the problem was for the valve. And that caused a little problem with the plumber because they didn't get the correct work order with the valve pressure.
What happened was when I spoke with the plumber, I said that I couldn't find the valve or an explanation on the water pressure. They said I needed to call back AHS and tell them that it's the water pressure and not the faucet. That took extra effort but it's fine. I called AHS and they were quick and made the changes. They put me on hold and contacted the contractor. The rep got back and got all of the correct information and we were good to go. AHS does a good job listing everything so you can pick and choose your issues online. But in my opinion, they can add another box that says, "Other," then you check that and explain what the problem is.
Other than that, I got a prompt response from the plumber and we set an appointment. I received a call from the plumber and then I received a text where I could track the plumber where he was. He replaced a part of the faucet within the shower. He looked at the pressure and he said it was okay. But after he looked at it, it seems like we were having hammerings when you shut off the water. That stopped after he looked at it. He was also able to put something on the other faucets that were loose. He tightened them and they seem to be working fine.

I didn't realize that our AC was not working because we had cooler weather here, so there was really no need for the AC. Then, when it started getting warmer, I noticed for three nights that it felt pretty warm and muggy. I looked at our thermostat and it said it was 79 degrees in the house. I filed the claim to AHS on a weekend. I tried calling to see if maybe somebody can come out sooner because it's just hot and miserable. But they ended up coming out first thing Monday, earlier than expected. They called ahead of time and let us know that somebody would be able to come earlier than the expected time that they had said previously. The only downfall with that is that they're not willing to come out on the weekend. It wasn't a ridiculous amount of time that we waited, but it was still a little longer than what I would have liked.
Other than that, submitting the claim to AHS online was really easy. I was looking to get a phone number, but I ended up finding the link to file a claim instead. I clicked on that and it was really easy. I had the payment go through right away. No stalling on it and no waiting for somebody to get on the phone. The contractor, Family A/C, was very professional, very friendly and informative. They fixed the AC and it was working right away. They were also in and out pretty quickly. The gentleman who came out also mentioned that I'd end up having to replace my AC unit because, in 2020, the one that I have right now is gonna be obsolete. He won't be able to legally carry the Freon that goes in my AC unit.

We had AHS at our previous home and were extremely satisfied. We have purchased a new warranty on our new home and made 2 service requests on 12/17/18. 1) Plumbing - no one in our area could service us. Ended up fixing it myself. Had to request refund. 2) Appliances (oven/refrigerator). Sent out one repair service who couldn't complete job. Request sent to another company who couldn't provide service either (contacted us on 1/7/18 3 weeks later). Contacted AHS. Spent 5 hours of my time (my wife had already spent more than that) on phone, chat room, etc. trying to resolve problem. No one could resolve issue. Tried requesting supervisor/manager to speak with. Got nothing but the runaround. Ended up requesting full refund of contract money and service co-pay amounts because basically NOTHING was done and COULD NOT get done. So sad, definitely a 180 degree turnabout in customer service since our first experience.

Calling either customer service number is a JOKE. I'm not sure if this is an attempt to encourage (force) people to use the online option. Nonetheless, I called one number from my work phone and one from my cell phone, and BOTH had me on hold for over an hour. I just put them on the speaker and let it play. When I finally got a CSR, we got disconnected after about 8 minutes. Despite having confirmed my phone number at the beginning of the call, he didn't bother to call me back.
After speaking to the originally assigned company directly, they said that AHS canceled my request. No idea why, but I certainly did NOT ask for that to happen. So I called AHS back, only to be left on hold yet again. While waiting with my call on speaker again, I noticed that the online chat happened to actually be available for change. The wait time was about 5-10 minutes. That CSR put an expedited request through, but omitted some parts of the initial request, so we'll see how that plays out.
** A previous service contractor that I was assigned was great. I requested him again, but they couldn't locate him in their system. Hopefully, this will go smoothly. ** If I can find another company with the same type of service plans, I'm gone - just like the 2 hours of my day today that I can't get back. The frustration from the customer service reps is not worth it.

I have had this for warranty for about a year now. My first service went well. This time around, I was very disappointed with the process and the poor quality and lack of knowledge the technicians had. My dishwasher went out and three times a technician came out: One from one company and twice from another company. They tried to say that the dishwashing leaking was a plumbing problem, so we called out two separate plumber and to get a second opinion and an insurance adjuster because of water leaking underneath cabinet. AHS tech continued to say it was a plumbing problem and eventually sent a letter said that the service was not a covered service.
I called them several times to explain that their technical was in error, but they were refused to hear my concern and continued to talk over me. By this time, I was outraged and angry. We ended up calling out an independent tech, who verified it was the dishwasher and not a plumbing problem. I called AHS and asked them to honor the cost of the invoice, they would not because I did not get prior approval.
Well, I called them several times, and they refused to hear my concerns and they did not care that their Tech was wrong. I immediately cancelled my policies that I had with all my properties they were covering. I felt disrespected and the process was handled very unprofessionally, and they simply acted as if they did to care. In addition, the initial employee that I was dealing with until I asked for manager, as well as the manager barely spoke English, so there was a huge language barrier. NOT HAPPY with this recent experience. I am searching for a top rated company now.
Good morning Jane,

We purchased a home warranty, and have not had a good experience with their vendors or their service after the sale. Trying to call in and check on our service request is a joke. We were placed in a vm loop that told us we had over an hour to wait to speak to representative. WHO HAS TIME FOR THAT? And it wasn't just once. This has been 5 calls now, and it's every time you have this extraordinary wait time. They intentionally set up their system to make it difficult to speak to anyone by simply not answering any calls and not giving you any option to really contact them. Their website says you can contact them, but in reality you can't. Check it out yourself. You can only call, and that's over an hour wait. The chat function doesn't work - it appears and then disappears. There is no email contact form. There is no email address to send them anything. And, their website does not allow any direct customer feedback. "Contact Us" gets you nowhere!
In addition, when we did have an issue, they sent a vendor who tried to invalidate the warranty we had paid for by saying our spa pump had "Excessive Use". How can we excessively use a spa we just bought, a warranty we just bought? We requested a 2nd vendor look at it, and they found nothing of the sort. So, the first guy was just writing an evaluation to make American Home Shield not have to pay out. How shady! A customer should be able to speak to a representative whenever they call in a timely manner. They should be able to trust that the vendors aren't just going to try and invalidate a warranty to save AHS for having to pay out on their own warranties. Horrible!!!

Our Viking cooktop was not lighting. Requested service on-line, two days later service technician arrived. Determined they needed parts (as expected), two weeks later parts arrive followed by the technician the next week. He can't install the parts since he needs a special tool that he doesn't have. Why they don't know they needs special tools for a Viking unit is of concern. It takes several weeks to obtain the tool because the service company needed special permission to order the tool. This I found out after several calls and 1 hour on-hold on the phone.
The tool finally arrives followed again by the technician for another visit. The ordered tool is not correct, clearly for a completely different burner assembly. They need to order another tool, they are clearly not sure which one. Tried calling AHS but was placed on hold for over 30 minutes. Called again and received option for a callback, tried this route. An hour later I receive a call, the robot askes if I still need customer service. After indicating yes, it places me on hold. 30 minutes later nothing. Unbelievable!!

First, let me preface this by saying it's been 11 days since my hot water heater burst and I still don't have hot water. On 12/27 my water heater broke. I called. Was on hold 20 mins and hung up. Placed an online service request and was given an appointment a week later with GMI Plumbing. Day before my appointment, called AHS to see if they can help me narrow the plumbing window (which was 9 am - 2 pm). 30 mins on hold with AHS to be told that they couldn't get through to GMI plumbing.
Tod from GMI finally came out, he walked in, snapped a photo. Didn't bring any tools. Didn't leave a diagnosis or estimate. I received a bill from AHS requesting payment and also AHS said work order was closed. Called again - on hold this time for 43 mins. Tried explaining to the lady what happened. She hung up on me. Called AHS again today. Apologies and switched to a new plumber. Fingers crossed and we'll see.

Soon after the closing on our in Maine we purchased a policy from American Home Shield to cover appliances and major equipment in our home. On July 20, 2018 I made a request online for repair of my stove top burner, my oven door hinges and my vent fan blower and was given a number of a repair service. By November we still had not received any service and I started to call AHS. Each time on the phone I was put on hold for progressively long times and, "Too sorry for your frustration. I will take care of the problem." In mid December I requested to speak to a manager who then told me she had to speak to someone else. For the first time we got a phone call back saying the repairs were authorized and parts had been ordered and would be arriving in 5 to 7 days. By this time it was Christmas and the hinges on my oven door had failed completely and the door was sitting on the floor of the laundry room (no turkey dinner).
I have since been on the phone again for hours and been told that the parts have arrived and this would be taken care of and we would receive a phone call back. I have been in touch with the repair service which has contradicted AHS statements - no he does not have all the parts and no they have not authorized service. Now I have looked on my account and they claim the repairs have been completed and we owe them a $100 for the second service call when NO service calls have been done. I had made two hour long phone call on the overdue notice, told each time that would be taken care of and it still is on my account page. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with any company. I personally believe we deserve a full refund but that would take so many more hours on the phone and months of frustration. There is apparently no way of getting in touch by e-mail.

PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!! I've been waiting for 3 months for a service requested to be completed that I've paid for repairs on. Please beware when researching this home warranty company as they are only as good as the service providers they contract with. Unfortunately the service provider (Sears) that was contracted to repair an oven door in my home has been unable to deliver the replacement parts required for repair. AHS is aware that they cannot get the parts and they have not been able to provide me with an alternative service provider and now 3 months after my initial service request, that have yet to replace or repair my oven door.
We were first time home buyers and AHS was recommended by our realtor, so we wanted to secure our investment and make sure we were doing everything we could as new home buyers to cover the existing appliances in our home. How wrong we were to go with this home warranty company as we have paid all our premiums and service request fees ($80.00/request) and still have had to get local contractors to make the repairs AHS contractors could not. We have had a few service requests that resulted in us learning that the items requested weren't in contract due to us not having certain components in place (clean out valves on very old plumbing) and plaster walls that they aren't authorized to cut through to reach a leaky pipe. We have had to contact local service providers for at least 2 other service requests that AHS sent out providers to repair, but were told that for one reason or the next, they weren't authorized to repair.
We have a 75yr old home and were not aware that there would be so many issues with the age of our house and what AHS actually would cover or not. I read the contract many times before signing up and none of this is explicitly explained in the "what's covered" section. Also most of the service providers that AHS sent to our home were from an hour or more away and it was very difficult to coordinate service repairs due to this. You have no control over the companies that they contract with and who is actually sent out to your home to do the repairs. One such company had terrible reviews and provided terrible service to me and I had to find a local contractor to simply snake my kitchen drain that was backing up because of the aforementioned situation regarding the plumbing in my home.
In my opinion, AHS may have great reviews but don't be fooled...you will only receive the minimum amount of repairs on any item you request service on and even then may have to search elsewhere to get the item properly repaired. We have learned the hard way after multiple service requests and those repair people coming to our home only to tell us that the item is not covered...after we paid for the service repair fee. Y'all...it just ain't good. Better to contract with local, trusted companies in your town that you know have a good reputation and gives you the control over who is coming to your home to service your appliances. Left up to AHS, they just do not get the job done right.

I waited through two winters working off expensive 'emergency heat' setting on my heat pump waiting for AHS to authorize replacement even after 2 different contractors said it could not be fixed. Constantly losing paperwork, waiting 20-30 minutes on hold, many of the CSRs would not say anything but 'it's being reviewed' and yet would not allow me to attempt to speak with someone who could tell me why it was taking so long. I was fed up and angry enough at one point to ask for the corporate phone number and was told they don't have one. Really? A Fortune 500 company and they don't have a corporate phone number? Two of my contractors told me hey didn't need the business that bad to put up with dealing with AHS and told me to find someone else to do the work.
The pattern I saw was 1. Be told send a document by scan. 2 Send document the same day. 3. Be told it wasn't received despite having a read receipt automatically generated from the address sent. 4. Next be told to fax it. 5. Be told at least 3 times the fax was not received even though you have the transmission report. 6. Be told that fax number has not been in service for a year or more. 7. Be told to mail the paper form to their Customer Service office but not being allowed to identify a specific recipient - it would have to go through the regular mail sort and eventually end up on someone's desk that has no idea what had been going on and is in no rush at all to make a decision.
8. Being told on several occasions the form was never received or discarded because the service was not approved at the time they received the documentation. (That's the reason I was told to send the documentation - to be able to get the authorization!) Of the 34 (yes, 34) calls I made between the initial service call and when I got the service authorized and scheduled, there were maybe 3 CSRs that were helpful. One because she was waiting for 2 months for them to fix one of her appliances and she was empathetic. Once it was installed, I submitted the documentation within 24 hours for reimbursement (I had to pay out of pocket because the reputation of AHS with the contractors I used was so bad, they wouldn't accept the job otherwise). When I submitted it, I was told 7-10 business days for reimbursement.
Two weeks later I was told 20-24 business days. Two weeks later I was told it could take up to 45 business days and oh, by the way, the documents the previous CSRs referred to when discussing reimbursement, now had mysteriously disappeared and had to be resubmitted. Nearly 3 months after the work was done, I finally received the reimbursement I had initially been promised within about 2 weeks. AHS consistently had the worst service and most customer un-friendly policies of any business I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. And if you stop your contract before the end (even though they advertise it as 'cancel anytime'), if you have had service done during the contract period, they charge you back the balance of the contract. Good riddance to American Home Shield!

The heater was not working on the air conditioner and my daughter filed a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone. AHS sent United Air and they couldn’t have been nicer. They were very helpful and informative and in about six days, my heater was repaired. I was satisfied. I have AHS on another house too.

We've used the warranty about 10 times and having it has been very valuable for me. I normally submit my claims online because no one ever answers the phone. Then they just sent a text saying who the contractor was. When we had two leaks, the contractor came out the next morning and he was very good. The leaks were on the filter and on the pump. The guy replaced an O-ring, and another part. The repair stopped the leak and I don't see any problems since then.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield always goes pretty smoothly. They just make the call, and then, I'm contacted by their people doing the work, and they set up an appointment. The guy who came over for my AC was great. He came in, found the problem and he had the part on his truck. He changed a relay, and he was in and out in about 40 minutes. I was really impressed by his professionalism. It was a good experience. I have had American Home Shield for about 12 years and they have always treated me very well.

My washing machine wasn't working. The tub, without the sensor, would cause the washing machine to rock back and forth and make a whole lot of noise, and the washing machine wouldn't flow automatically to the next cycle. It would wash the clothes, then I would have to put it on the rinse cycle. I would have to put it on the spin and drain cycle in order to wash the clothes.
I called in a claim to American Home Shield for my washing machine on October the 20th, but I did not get my new washing machine from American Home Shield until January the 4th. The reps were nice, but I was very disappointed that it took that long to make the determination to give me the new washing machine and for me to actually get it. But the contractors sent were good. They told me from the beginning that I needed a new washing machine. If I would not have had American Home Shield, I would have just gone out and bought a new washing machine right from the beginning.
About the same time that I reported my washing machine I also reported that my dishwasher was broken. The repairman came from Suretec. He determined that the dishwasher needed to be replaced because I had reported the problem previously, where the electronic circuit board had been changed that made the dishwasher working, but it still wasn't. It took from October 20th to December 27th for me to get my new dishwasher. I am happy with my new washing machine and my new dishwasher, but I'm unhappy that it took that long to get it resolved.

I got on the phone with American Home Shield since there was a leak in my hot water heater. The claims submission was very easy. When I called to say I was already up and was waiting for a technician, a guy was free and he came over right away. That was good. The guy was very professional. He replaced the copper tubing with PVC and there won't be any more leakage. During the repair, he did something and broke the other side of the water heater, but he fixed that right away. Everything is fine.

I've had my American Home Shield policy for 10 years now. Finances have changed a bit over the years and I've considered dropping it, but I'm really glad that I didn't. I recently sent in a claim with them when my water heater was leaking. I spoke with one of their representatives and she was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, professional, and very kind. J&C Plumbing Service was the repair company that came out and they were great. They did what they said they were gonna do. They called me quickly, ordered what I needed, and got the right thing in. The guy came out when he said he was gonna come out and got the thing installed. So far, everything seems to be working as it should - I have hot water and nothing is leaking.

Our neighbors had a smoker and every time I had the AC unit running, it would start sucking in smoke into the house. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and the process was simple and easy. It took about a week for the contractor to get in touch with me. The tech said that he used a certain type of tape and he sealed the AC along wherever he thought the smoke was coming in because it was hard to figure out where it was. It was cold last week and we ran the heater. The neighbors were smoking and burning wood and we didn't get any smoke coming into the house. We haven't had any problems yet and hopefully, the tape fixed it.
The tech sent out was fine and did a good job. He was knowledgeable about what was going on. However, he was baffled by the issue and I told him what was going on. We had the AC repaired before back in July and it got fixed, but whatever was going on afterward, I didn't realize that there was a seal that was supposed to happen, and they didn't do it. Nonetheless, the AC is fixed now. Everything was easy to use with AHS.
Good afternoon Gary,
I would thank to thank you for the feedback regarding your experience with American Home Shield and the air conditioner repairs that were completed.

I have three properties with American Home Shield and I have referred them to my clients. My AHS warranty has been valuable for me. The gal that is the representative locally for us is absolutely awesome. Any time there’s a problem, I can call her and she’ll get the issue taken care of. It’s the person that services the customer or the client that really makes the company.
Recently, I had an issue with the dishwasher and submitted a claim with AHS. The F1 and F3 on it wouldn't operate. On the same day that I talked to the contractor, Nor Cal Repair Services, their tech came out. I have been with AHS for 20 years and this fellow from Nor Cal is the best one that has ever been out to the house. He said there's a part that's like a connection that triggers the F2 and F3 codes and if that part gets wet sometimes, then they have to go in there and replace it. The tech repaired the dishwasher and it has been fine since then.

When I used the air conditioner, the water was leaking from one of the lines. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online then a guy came out and he said the line was clogged. He had to clear a blockage so he ran a line through one of the bathrooms where the main line goes up to the pipe, something in the attic. After he cleared it, it has been working fine and there is no leaking. Everything is fine, so he did a good job. I had another claim and it was when the heating unit was not working. The company, Three Brothers, took a while to came out and they were a little slow compared to the other company that came out. AHS needs to get rid of them. After my experience with that guy, I talked to one of the American Home Shield people and he said that he was really sorry, and then he helped me find a good contractor. He has heard really good things about Nice Guy and he sent them out, and the tech solved the whole problem.
I like that with American Home Shield, I can request certain companies like Nice Guy and also my air conditioning guy, as long as they stay in business with them. So, I’m very happy because I can pick who I want. Now that I have Good Guys that I can call, I’m finally getting my refrigerator figured out. American Home Shield is a great company if you need it. If you don’t like that serviceman, you can call American Home Shield and they’ll fix it for you. You have options and they’ll help you come with a resolution. They did an estimate and two days later, they came out and rebuilt the water heater because it was not up to the code. They did all of it and had it all done in about three hours. The contractors were very professional, friendly and courteous. They would ask what they needed and then they'd go ahead and finish what they were doing. We have hot water again and it is working fine. We are happy with American Home Shield. In fact, within the last week, I have recommended them to two people.

My most recent claim was for a wine cooler that failed, and AHS sent out a contractor to repair it. He did, but it failed again. He was terrific and a fantastic repairman though. He has done other items of work under the contract for us with refrigeration and he's very good. He's very timely and always lets us know when he's gonna be coming. It was determined that an additional part was needed for the wine cooler. The additional part was no longer obtainable though so we purchased a new wine cooler and AHS reimbursed us.
I called AHS and the woman told me what I had to do. She told me that I would have to buy the item first, up to $1,000. She also told me exactly what kind of documentation they would need and that I would need the invoice, the payment and the warranty from the manufacturer's book that came with the item. I had to make a PDF of it and send it to them by email, which is what I did. The experience was very nice. AHS did what they said they'd do, and their response has been fairly rapid each time there has been an issue.

Also, my garage door won’t work and a contractor came but they did not do the threshold part of it. I should have told them that the pad outside does not work, but I didn’t realize that and in order to get it to work, I gotta pay another $75. I do not know if I wanna do it or not. This technician from Morris-Jenkins I believe broke the unit upon arrival and left us in the cold. I panicked because I wasn’t sure how we were going to make it without heat and space heaters are not good enough.
My husband suggested I call the warranty company (which I should have done in the first place). They came out and fixed the problem the same day!!! Something was going on with my air conditioning unit. It wasn't getting cold. My daughter called AHS and submitted the claim with a representative. The AC is working now. When it comes on, it makes this noise. When we reported the claim, we said the problem was the AC and the heating system, but the tech didn't look at the heating system. I think somebody else needs to come back out and tell me why it makes noise every time the heat comes on. I tried to call American Home Shield back again and I was on hold for so long. I get frustrated when I'm trying to get in touch with them.
When I'm trying to get in touch with AHS, I have these long waits. Then, when I do talk to somebody, I'm always getting disconnected then I have to call back again and have another long wait. Then I gotta go explain stuff all over again because every time you have to call back, you get a different rep. If I'm speaking with a rep after holding for a long time and get disconnected, why not call me back? Once you get in touch with them though, they come through on the repairs and do a wonderful job. Plus, when the contractors come out to do their part, they do a wonderful job. I recommended AHS to family and friends.

We knew some other people who talked about American Home Shield a year or two ago, and we didn’t think anything of it. Then our son got it for his house, and he called us up to tell us how great it was. He had a couple of repair jobs for his microwave and dishwasher and he was very pleased with AHS. So we called up, got the information, and we signed up with them. And then we had a problem with our dishwasher. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was great. The only problem that we had was to get through to anybody. You had to be on hold either for them to call you back or just hang on until you could get someone. But once we got a hold of people, they were great.
It took about a week for the whole claim to be completed. The problem was it was between Christmas and New Year's. But we were surprised that the techs got it so quickly. And also, when they checked the original unit, they had to see where the parts were available to repair it, and it took them a while to do that. And then when they found out they couldn't, they got right to us and said they were gonna replace it. We spoke to the people at Lu Appliances and they emailed us the units with pictures and specifications. After we looked at them, we called them back, and it was perfect.
The people who came out to install the dishwasher delivered it on Monday before New Year's. After we got it, we just called up and told the people who were supposed to come and install it that it was here, and it was okay. They called us back, and they came the day after New Year's and were early. They gave us the time that was up until 3:30 in the afternoon, and they were here about 9:30 in the morning. They installed it, and then they took out the old unit. When they finished installing it, they hauled all the stuff away. We told people about the experience we had. We've already recommended one person and my wife has two other people that she's waiting to get their addresses so that she could recommend them as well.

Brian said that they would have to order the control board and I'm waiting for them to get back with me. I called them on Wednesday, and they should have the part by today. I was not comfortable after reading the reviews so I called AHS back and asked if I could be placed with the same company that I originally was scheduled with, Air First.
Air First arrived and they were very responsive, very professional and on-time. They fixed my problem very quickly so it was a great experience. I hope that American Home Shield will continue to be accommodating. I will examine the reviews of companies that’s supposed to come to my home and if they’re not acceptable to me, I will request to change. They did rechange it for me, but they said that will be a courtesy one time. So, I hope that won’t be the case moving forward. If I get placed again with a company that does not have good reviews, I don’t want that service from those companies. I’ve been happy with AHS, so far. I put in a service call for my water heater. I told the guy that AHS sent that the leak was coming from behind the wall. Even though he changed the date a couple of times, he stayed in contact and worked with it. He changed the hot water knob. I said that he was gonna be coming back out because the leak was coming from in between the walls. I had to call him to come back out and he had to change the date twice, but he finally came out, took the water heater out, and fixed it. I asked him to pull it out. I wanna put some more insulation in the wall. He said a different guy would come out to do the Sheetrock. I called AHS while he was here and they contacted me with another guy to do the drywall.
The insulation guy set an appointment to do the drywall, a Saturday, between 10:00 and 2:00. He got the measurements from the guy that did the water heater. He was was really nice. He called me today and he thought his appointment was today. I said that it was Saturday and that I'd see him then. He said fine. I had gotten back to work from my lunch break and received a text message from him. He told me he canceled the job. He didn't believe he would be able to get behind the water heater. He suggested calling AHS and ask them for cash in lieu. They'd cut me a check and I could hire a contractor to repair it. He has never been to the house so how can he say he couldn't it?
I called him and I said there was enough room. I said that if he cut the insulation into strips it can be done. It doesn't need to be perfect, I just needed it up there. He said he couldn't do it. I called AHS. I texted him that AHS said they did not have a cancellation from him. I said that if he can't come out, just tell them and they will authorize my contractor. He said he could come Monday at noon and that he cannot guarantee the work if the water heater is not removed, but that he would do the best he can.
Behind the hot water heater is pegboard. He said he would not replace the pegboard unless I buy it. Basically, I have to buy all the material for him to come out. I said it doesn't work like that. I said that I could tell AHS that he couldn't do it and that I have someone else lined up if they could authorize my contractor. When I called earlier, AHS put me on hold. The rep tried to contact the insulation guy and never got an answer from him. I tried to call him after that and he wouldn't even answer my calls either. I pay 50 dollars every month to AHS to not go through this headache.

Mike said that the heater isn't even big enough for our house, which I believe because the room that my mom is in, that will heat up until 80 degrees and the rest of the house goes to normal temperature so it’s like all the air is only going to one room when it worked.
Then, another guy came out and he said that he's a plumber and he doesn't work on heaters. He said he’s gonna hire somebody in January but we’ve been sitting here since then and my husband called them and said we're cold. Other than that, the only frustration I have with them is we had people calling us about a dispatch and we keep telling them that it's not our dispatch and that we don't have that number. Still, we work it out with them. We make them understand that it isn’t ours so we really can’t answer their questions.

The garbage disposal went bad and filing a claim for it over the phone went well. It was filed on Christmas Eve, which was on Tuesday, and Heyworth Plumbing was there on Friday. The tech was very professional and he took care of the situation within a couple of hours, replacing the garbage disposal with a new one. I’ve had some other claims with American Home Shield also, and everything was always taken care of in a timely manner.

I had an electrical outlet that wasn’t working in the bathroom. Within minutes of putting in a claim with American Home Shield, I got a response that someone will be contacting me in the morning. That worked absolutely fabulous as the contractor H&C Electric was out that morning. The service tech's name was Gary and had fabulous interactions. He had fixed the problem within 15 minutes and made a new GFI outlet. Now, the blow dryer, curling iron, and all that stuff that the ladies use are all set. American Home Shield is a great a solution to my electrical problems if I run into anything else. I would highly recommend them.

We have been with American Home Shield since 2004 and so far, we're pleased that we have it. We had a power outage recently and the outage did something to the heating system. My husband was unable to get our furnace working again, so we put in a call to American Home Shield. However, we had to wait until New Year’s Eve for someone to show up. But the tech did show up, and he showed up before 8:00 in the morning. They gave us the window of 8:00 to 12:00. So, we were very happy. My husband was at the house when the contractor came, and he was very impressed. The furnace is working now, and so we’re nice and toasty, warm and comfortable, and happy. We had a wonderful experience with American Home Shield.

I like to talk to people so when I had a claim for the heating in my rental, I called American Home Shield. The compressor froze up, and it was due to the compressor pump that failed. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the interaction I had with their rep was great. I'm very pleased with AHS and the contractors that they get too. The contractor, Integrity, was perfect. They couldn't have gotten out there any faster. They said they were gonna be there between 8:00 and 10:00 and they were there at quarter after 8:00. It was like within an hour when I called Home Shield, so they were really helpful. They had to replace the pump. They worked it out last year, so they knew where it was. And for the washer, Sears took a day to get out here but they were good and showed up on time. They remedied the problem. It just had to be reset. I would recommend AHS. They're an on-call home insurance thing, that whenever I needed them, they responded to me possibly and very quickly. They do what they're supposed to do.

When I submitted a claim for a washing machine, the rep listened to my complaint and she said that she would schedule somebody and that she would follow it up with a text message, and she did. She also told me that Integrity would be calling within 24 hours to schedule an appointment, and they called immediately. The serviceman who arrived was clean-cut and he did a great job. The service was excellent. Since the repair, the washing machine has been working perfectly. I was able to move along with everything and we had clean clothes for the holidays.
In the past, American Home Shield had sent nothing but idiots to my house. They don't repair it right. They would say it was fixed, they leave and I had to pay $75. Then two days later, it’s broken again and there’s a different contractor so there’s no warranty, and now I have to pay $75 again for a different company. I’ve been very unhappy with American Home Shield until this particular repair. In fact, I was shocked that the serviceman for the washing machine came from AHS. But the warranty is valuable. It’s nice to know that most things that you’re paying for every month are covered. They don’t always have the best people but this time, I'm so impressed.

My water heater was making a rumbling noise and I put in a request online with American Home Shield. I could do it online if I was not in a hurry and it was easier for me when I was sitting down. Then, within an hour, I had a reply message that I have been assigned a plumbing company and they would be contacting me within 48 hours. They contacted me within 10 hours to schedule an appointment.
The gentleman that came from Habit Plumbing was very professional. He explained in detail what was happening with my water heater and gave me good tips and things I should be aware of. He tested the ignition and the lighter and said that everything was working smoothly and explained to me about the sediment that builds up into water heaters and how some of them do the rumbling like mine. My water heater itself was actually working and I didn’t have to end up servicing it because what happened to it was just normal. I’ve had AHS since September through a referral from a friend and I’m overall pleased with the quality of how things were handled. It was an excellent service. Their timeliness and professionalism were good.

I needed to assess where my septic tanks were located on a property I purchased with my wife back in July of 2018. The gentleman who came out were 10 minutes early and they were very accommodating. The guys that were there were consummate professionals and they literally knew how to answer all of my questions. I wanted to better understand how septic tanks work, how often they needed to be serviced and where they were located. You could tell that they were incredibly comfortable with their line of work and that this wasn't just a summer job for them. It seemed like it was a family-owned business and that they really took a lot of pride and integrity in the work and the service that they provided. So, I was very, very happy with them.
Since I've been with American Home Shield, I've made claims on the property and Grease Trappers was the best experience that I had. I had another one that was decent with Fox Locks out of Gurnee through rekeying the house and the other good one that I had was with the garage door corporation. Those three experiences were incredible and then three of the experiences that I had were terrible. Either of these guys that came out were rock stars or they came out and were very unapologetic and late.
There was a gentleman with a plumbing company who came out to take a look at my house. There was one leak in particular that was causing my wife and I not to be able to live in the house so, I have been in a hotel with my wife and my two children for the last month and a half. I haven't said anything because I don't know who to complain to. There was one pipe that was leaking and it stemmed from underneath the master bathroom Jacuzzi tub. It was leaking into the family room and living room area. So, I couldn't install the flooring in my house that I would like to install. I couldn't move in my furniture, which means we couldn't stay there as a family. I mentioned this to the plumber that came in and he recommended that I do some things with my plumbing system. He did the diagnosis of the house and checked what was around.
I asked him if his company would be interested in tackling the project since they were a licensed plumber in the area. I assumed this was a $40,000 to $60,000 job and I would be willing to hire their company to take care of it. He said no and that it was more efficient for him to take 10 American Home Shield calls because whether or not he does any work, he gets paid on them. It was more profitable for him at his age to take all of the 10 calls from American Home Shield at $75 or $100 a call, rather than stressing himself out about a large project where he has to hire a crew. He was giving me advice, but then he was not backing it up with anything. He was just telling me what I needed to do and then he was leaving. So, he didn't fix anything nor did he even open the drywall even when I offered to pay to have the drywall repaired because I had another contractor on site.
So, I asked for a second opinion and a new plumber came out. I took a lunch break from my work, I drove about 35 miles north and I sat there for an hour and a half waiting for the second plumber to come out. He never showed up. So, I called American Home Shield and they were able to get ahold of the plumber who called back and lied to AHS. He said he tried to call me and left a voicemail. I told him that was not true and that if he tried to call me and I missed his call, I would give him the benefit of the doubt. However, I never received a voicemail, and I was sitting in the driveway when he was telling me that.
I asked the AHS person what the deal was and she said she was gonna send them out. I told her that I was not gonna be here but I would see if I can get one of my family members who are in the area to come meet with him. So, my cousin who happens to be a contractor himself went with them on site on my behalf which took 40 minutes out of his day. We spoke to that guy and rather than going and assessing the work, apologizing about being late and doing what he needed to do, he took some of the notes from the last gentleman, even though American Home Shield says that he doesn't have any visibility to those notes. He had some level of visibility because before he even assessed anything in the unit, he literally just copied what the last guy said verbatim. He said there was nothing he could do, it wasn’t covered and it was a preexisting condition. Then, he left.
American Home Shield is a fantastic company and the portal is easy to use. Everything that they are doing at this point is right but I wish they would hear us out as the people filing the claim. There was more benefit of the doubt given to those who were calling in to complain about their experiences with these other people. We have no reason nor incentives to misguide them. There were two plumbers that didn't want to do their jobs and that was a bad experience but then, I’ve had good experiences. It was hit and miss and it’s who American Home Shield has contracted with. Some of the guys were awesome and some were just awful. When the guys are awesome, we’ll let them know as well as when the guys are bad. There are people who are getting a lot of complaints or the companies that are receiving a lot of complaints and AHS may wanna consider dropping them and finding another contractor in the area.

Our garbage disposal wasn't working and the commodes throughout the house were getting clogged up for no reason at all. We called American Home Shield and we were gonna make two records, but since it was plumbing, it was made under one. The contractor came to fix everything and they were very good and very prompt. They called the day before and they told me that they were gonna come at 10:00. They called again and asked if they could move it up to 8:00. Since I had nothing to do in the morning, 8:00 was fine. They were here for a while, they were very courteous and they did the jobs well. Everything that they did since they came, came out okay.
Overall, the people that AHS picked were very honest and very courteous. They do their jobs and they do their jobs well. We have had American Home Shield service for 4 years. They have been prompt and efficient servicing and making minor repairs to washer, dryer, refrigerator, toilets etc., and servicing the central A/C unit annually. Last summer, the central A/C unit went out completely. The technician determined that the unit was not fixable and would need to be replaced. The home office said the replacement of the unit wasnt covered because the tech had noted a filter was missing in the refrigerant line. I reminded them that they had serviced the unit for three years without noting or recommending a filter be installed.
The scheduler said they couldnt be held responsible since someone else might have tampered with the unit. (As if someone would go into the backyard, cut out the filter, and seal the line back up). The replacement cost $7,000, and AHS paid $0.00. We renewed the AHS service for 2019 to cover the minor stuff; but, feel that the company does not treat loyal clients well for MAJOR repairs.

We requested service for a busted water pipe in our kitchen in an inside wall Representative over the phone gathered all necessary information and proceeded to collect a $125 service fee which I thought was strange because in my past experience with other home warranty companies that was not collected until the contractor showed up. Plumber was scheduled 2 days later which was a Friday at 1 pm. Plumber calls us asking if he can come at 8 am instead. Unfortunately we could not change time due to work schedule. Plumber shows up and states that it is a noncovered service.
After reading my contract I do not understand why this was not covered being that it was an interior wall and we had already pulled cabinets and sink away from wall so he had easy access. We personally think being it was a Friday afternoon he did not want to do the job. We also requested service on our wall heater and for some reason we were told by rep on the phone that it is not covered because it is a wall heater. Again reviewed my contract and it states wall heaters ARE covered. I am done with this company!! They are good at collecting your monthly premiums and a so called "service fee" but not providing service when you really need it. I feel they are a scam! After explaining our experience to friends and neighbors (which a few are realtors) I am being told to stay far away from AHS.

It very limited on choices of why you are calling. Long story short they referred Plumbing Inc and they called me in two days. I explained the issue and they said it would take 3 days to come look at the drains. When he came he did nothing because he does not remedy odors coming from the drains and left. I called AHS on Wednesday to file a claim. The company who was supposed to do the job said they don't do that. I filed a new claim, same company was assigned. I called AHS, was on hold for 1.2 hours, and when I complained about the wait the customer service lady first was aggressive, saying that they had other customers (I am calling about a problem they created and pay $1100 a year) and then she just hung up on me when I tried to get a word in the conversation. So they dispatch the wrong company for a broken pipe. When the company cancels, and tells me that "AHS will reassign the job", I check on the website and there is no pending claim. I call and, after waiting an hour and 12 minutes, they hung up on me. And I wasn't rude because I am a CEO and understand how customer service works. I am now on hold again and have been for an hour and five minutes. Stay tuned, more news coming.

Then, we had a super nice and prompt contractor. He also called to ask me if I wanted him to come a little later in the evening or to come at day. Otherwise, he could come in a couple of days. I told him to get it done that day. The guy explained to us that we are zoned and that sometimes, we have to turn the upper off to get more air down below because the heat rises and because our lower level was never turning that warm, because of the unit that we have and how it splits the air. So far, we have been happy with American Home Shield.

I'm a real estate agent and I used to always recommend Fidelity because that was what I used to have for over 15 years. It was all about loyalty to me but then, for some reason, they weren’t doing something that I expected. So, I went with American Home Shield and so far, my experience with them has been very good. Recently, my refrigerator's lights went out and I called them to submit my claim. The tech who came out was very nice and he efficiently did what he was called out for. It was a simple thing because he wasn't even here for more than 10 minutes.
While he was here, it clicked in my head that for a long time now, I had a problem with my dishwasher. So, I asked him if there was a way that he could do that as well because it has been like that for a long time. I was just dealing with it and I didn’t even know if it could be fixed. He looked at it and told me that I'd have to order a part because the portion where I put the dish soap broke, so it didn’t snap shut. He said the whole piece was about 75 bucks and I wish he could have ordered the piece then because it would have really helped us out a lot since we're on a fixed budget. But he said that I would have to make a separate call for the repair of the dishwasher. I hate that if you're gonna have a guy come out, which is gonna cost 75 bucks, and you want to have him do another thing that you forgot but is related to your current claim, that other thing would not be covered. Other than that, I'm liking American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

We didn’t have enough hot water in our tank. And apparently, we hadn't turned off the thermostat. We live in Arizona. In the summer, the ground water is very warm, so you turn the thermostat down. Otherwise, the water won't cool off to take a shower or bath. And we had never turned it off for the winter so it made the water cold. I called American Home Shield and they sent AM PM Plumbing in less than 24 hours. The tech was out the next morning. He went through things with us. He checked and saw that the heat was turned way down into the lowest temperature. And he said, “That’s more than likely what your problem is.” So he turned it off, and we waited for a few minutes until it started heating. And sure enough, our water was getting hot.
We're back to normal now. Having the warranty has been valuable because it was an older home that we bought. It's about 15 years old and so we don’t have a lot of user manuals. It turned out to be good because even though it cost us $75, it was well worth it to get somebody out here that knew what they were doing and showed us what to do. It saved us some money.

I wish American Home Shield had called me over the last couple of years because I was ready to cancel. Their customer service is crappy. I am always on hold for a minimum of one hour, waiting for service. I am absolutely livid with the way I've been treated for the last five years. Also, I had so much out of pocket cost because of them sending out substandard people to make my repairs that I actually had to hire private people to do my repairs. It was $1,300 and the other one was about $300 with a discount. I was not happy.
I've had my cooler worked on at least twice a year. There was one time where the bearings were out on the motor shaft, and the techs said there was nothing wrong with it. I took pictures, I submitted them to them and they said there's nothing wrong with it. But anyone, not even trained, can tell the bearings were bad, and they refused to fix it.
Then one time the airflow of the heater was only good in one bedroom and one bathroom. I didn't know if it was a ductwork issue, but the front half of the house was always cold. But the problem was, I've had some recent traumas this past year. I left my daughter and my mom and within 17 days to each other. My other daughter moved down and so we have a lot of clutter. I have boxes in front of the intake vent and didn't realize it. That's why there was no airflow in the beginning. And rather than rip me off and come up with nonsense repairs, which has been happening, the tech happened to look down and showed the problem. I felt totally stupid and over the last five years prior, the techs were not trained at all.
I also had a mainline sewer back up. A guy came out and the company charged me $300 out of pocket for him to get on the roof to snake out the line. It sounded like he was running a drill and the problem was not fixed. They said they could run a camera down there and it would cost me another $270 for that. I just told them to go ahead and do it.
The guy came back the next day. I got charged another $300 to get back on the roof. American Home Shield won't cover it. It is a bunch of nonsense because the older homes do not have the ground inlet. They're on the roof. You have to go up on the roof. It's crappy that I'm being charged for that. When he came back the next day with the camera, he wanted to charge me another $300. I called my brother and he sent his friend out who's a commercial plumber. He said there is no way you can run the snake at 55 feet from the roof and reach the clog. So I got ripped off. You have to take the toilet off the floor and go that way.
They sent a guy out for my mainline water break and he wanted to charge me $13,000 so I said I wanted an estimate. They came back with a $13,000 estimate. I told them I wanted to see an itemized bill because I know the line for that is only $1000. I wanted to know what the other $12,000 was for. And again, I called my brother because he works for construction and knows contractors. The guys that came out here rented a trencher. They had two men come out, they laid the line and they replaced the copper piping. They actually gave me another spigot on the other side of the house, and it's only $1,300.
This last experience was pristine. The person that I spoke to, Ashley, was awesome, very quick and professional. I got my work order put in in a timely manner. AHS said someone will come the following day. I got the text messages saying my claim has been submitted. They also said the tech would be out between 10:00 and 2:00.
AHS sent out one of the old companies that I had a really bad experience with but I gave them a chance. They sent a tech out and his name was Rico. He came here about 10:00 - 10:15. He was nice, prompt and awesome! However, I feel like it's been a waste of my money every month to get charged. And then I found out my appliances aren't covered. That’s a policy issue. As far as the repairs and stuff, in the beginning when I first bought the house you get that first year's coverage. For the first couple of years, American Home Shield was good and then it started going downhill.

I had used American Home Shield on my previous home, so I had suggested to my husband to check into them when it was time for warranty renewal on our current home. We changed to them from Old Republic in the summer. We had two claims that my husband called in. One was for the pool and the other one was for electricity. The pool claim went fabulous. The contractor representing Breakthrough Pools was a really nice guy, really prompt, followed through, and did everything he said. We were very pleased with them.
For the electricity claim, the contractor is on recall to come back out. The guy that they sent out didn’t fix the problems when he came out. In fact, he told us to go and get something to fix it, and if that didn’t work then to call him back. So we did that and it didn’t fix it. My husband talked to the contractor and he's coming back with a supervisor. Technically, for that one, we feel like we wasted our money. The electric issue has affected us much because the lights in my son’s bedroom would flash on and off due to something that was out in the light socket. Also, I can't turn on any porch lights to see when we're walking outside around the pool. At this point, for as long as they come back and do what they say they were supposed to do, then we're satisfied.

He came in, looked at the sink where the issue was and did his job. I have more water now than I ever had in this house in three years. So far, American Home Shield has been good and I recommend them.

Our furnace wasn't working so we filed a claim online. The site was user-friendly, the request was sent in a couple of clicks. The contractor who came out was really good. They diagnosed the issue right away, but there was a lack of communication between their office and ourselves. We had to call to follow up a couple of times to find out when they were coming and what was going on with the actual situation. They said they were waiting for parts and then it was the scheduling and then they’re waiting for parts again. They should have either emailed or texted, they had all our contact info. It was right before Christmas and it was getting cold.
Our main concern was that my parents were coming from Canada for Christmas, which isn't a big deal because it's a heck of a lot warmer here that it is there. But my dad has cancer, so we just needed to make sure that it wasn't uncomfortable for him and not put any additional stress on him. My parents came on the Thursday before Christmas, our part came in the day after they arrived. The contractor came and put the part in and did everything they needed to do that morning. That day was really warm, so we didn't need the furnace. The next morning, however, the temperature dropped. The furnace didn’t kick on, so I tried it myself and it didn't work. At 6:30 in the morning, my husband's gone to work, so I called AHS’s emergency service. I got a phone call back at 8 o'clock, and they sent two people out, the person who does the diagnostic and the technician, who came out right away.
It turns out there was some type of ignition issue where it was gummed up and it had to be cleaned. They should check those things before leaving and just clean it up to make sure that everything was working properly. But Friday, before Christmas, everybody's anxious to just go and have their holiday, so that happens. Since the repair, everything's working perfectly. Everybody was very pleasant. American Home Shield is great and the concept is fantastic! They don't have anything like this in Canada. So when we signed up for this and this all worked the way that it was supposed to for the monthly payment, plus the service fee, I thought this is wonderful. I highly recommend the service. I would just suggest that they find some things a little bit better with their preferred contractor, but other than that, it was a pleasant experience.

Our American Home Shield warranty has been very valuable. We like being able to go to one location and have somebody recommend someone, who in the two times we’ve used it had gotten our issue done for us. Sometimes when navigating with independent contractors, one doesn’t know who they're getting or if they’re gonna be any good. And so far, the ones that have come from American Home Shield have been great.
We had some lights that had gone out and we checked the circuit box but it didn’t seem like any of the breakers were flipped. An outside light had blown when I flipped it on and it took out some lights inside as well as the front entry way and our dining room chandelier. So, I submitted a claim for repair online and I was impressed by how easy it was. Ideal Services came out after 2 days and, in fact, one of the breakers was partially flipped. I showed him what the issue was, and the contractor knew right away that it was involved with the circuit. We took him out to the circuit box and opened it up. He looked at it and he said that it doesn’t look flipped but he would reset it and see what would happen. Everything worked after he reset it so I told him that we had done the same thing. And he said that if I didn’t push it all the way to the left or if I just pushed it to the midpoint, then it wouldn’t work. So, our issue has been fixed and we learned something.

The section of our vent pipe going to the roof to the backdraft fell and broke in two. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield and Mel's Preventive Maintenance came out. I let them up in the attic, they looked at the vent, and then they called AHS. AHS said they wouldn’t pay for it, so it cost me $200 to get that vent put back in. Since we paid $200, we thought that the claim was cancelled but my wife checked and said that AHS charged us $75. Other than that, Mel's Preventive was good.

My faucet was leaking and I called American Home Shield. I waited a few minutes but it wasn't too long and the representative was very nice. Around the summer months of last year though, anywhere from June to August, it was terrible. I waited for 30 or more minutes and when I spoke to someone, I did not understand them because of the accent. That was about every time I called. But now I clearly can understand the person speaking. They then sent contractors within the same week who were able to fix the leak.
Last summer though, my air conditioning system was broken and it took at least four attempts for it to be completely fixed because it would work for a day or two and go back out. I had to keep calling and because it was the summer months, the company would say that they have so many customers and that they couldn’t get out until the next week. Then, they would say that they have ordered the part but wouldn’t be having it in until another two weeks. It was just horrible and I was about nine months pregnant at the time. My overall experience with American Home Shield has improved though. Just be ready to wait when something is wrong and then they order a part, if it's during a season, the cold months or summer months, it can take a long time for the turnaround time.

My wife has a lot of long hair and it periodically clogged up into the drain in the shower. It happens once every six months, and I submit a claim to American Home Shield for it. The plumber that came recently was nice. He did the job really quickly. He told me I could try using 100% lye, instead of calling and spending $75 on the home warranty. I got some lye crystals, so when it happens again, I'll try it and hopefully I won't have to call AHS.
I really like AHS and their online system is really good. It's a lot better than the previous home warranty companies we've dealt with. It's very easy to navigate and user-friendly. That’s what I’m looking at a home warranty company. The quality of the contractor is good too, which is important. I also look at affordability, so it would be great if AHS could lower their price.

American Home Shield has been good. The only trouble is when I call them, I’m on hold for 40 minutes or longer. They didn’t apologize for the wait time. I am considering going back to Old Republic because of that issue. And when I had a broken toilet I got a second opinion because the first opinion was incorrect. The gentleman that came out to fix the water heater went out of his way to install it the same day so that was good service. But he was also the one that looked at the toilet. When I told him it was broken, he said it was cosmetic, and it wasn’t. AHS wasn’t very clear on the fact that I should call for a second opinion until I insisted that it was broken, and, in fact, it was leaking. So then they kinda caved in and asked if I would like a second opinion. I told them absolutely and to send somebody out. Another plumbing company came out and told American Home Shield that it was in fact broken so they gave him clearance to go ahead and fix it.

The house we bought is an old home that was built 25 years ago, so we've gotten into that stage where the new things that were put in tended to have problems. We've had the house on the warranty in the three years that we've had it and the warranty has been pretty good. Recently, I filed a claim online with American Home Shield when there was a simple blockage in a couple of sinks that needed to be routed out. Navigating their website was straightforward and there wasn't any particular difficulty with it. I’m an IT consultant, so I didn't even mind.
The contractor, Pipe Dream Plumbing, was sent out by AHS. I was told that I would be contacted by the technician within 24 hours, but I didn't get that response and didn't expect it because this was during the holidays. But I had used them before and their response has usually been accurate. Also, the tech that came had been out here before, so he was somebody that I knew.
One time, though, we had a garage door opener that broke and it took 45 minutes on the phone to get a technician to fix it. That seemed unrealistic because the unit itself was 25 years old and the gear that broke was plastic. The tech said he could fix it but he would be back here the next week because it was starting to fall off, and they went around and around. I said that it's a $300 item and they needed to just get over it, and eventually they did. Since the guy was here, I also had him replace my two garage doors. AHS paid for one and I paid for the other one. But that seemed like a lot of hassle for something that was pretty straightforward, especially for something that old. But anyway, I understand that insurance companies don't like to pay for stuff, so that's standard. That’s the only irritating thing that has ever happened in the time that we've had the warranty. So, it has been very valuable to have and I would recommend AHS.

Live in Florida. HVAC went out. A/C wouldn't turn off (ran constantly) and heat would not go on (including e-heat). Called, and waited 48 hours for call back to schedule a technician. Firm called, came, looked at unit and bailed. Gotta give them credit for that - rather have them bail versus work on something they don't know. Waited another couple of days for a reschedule with another firm. They arrived promptly, and quickly analyzed the problem - a bad board (which theoretically was under warranty from appliance manufacturer).
Local contractor reported results to AHS who took 18 days - I repeat - 18 days to order the part, which 30+ days later remains undelivered. I am now day 35 into a no heat/no ac situation. Trying to contact AHS regarding this, but already 18 minutes on hold. But of course they have already been paid the $125 for the service call. Luckily it's December in Florida andIi am coping with space heaters. Thank heaven this isn't July, nor do I live in No Dakota, or I would have had to abandon ship by now. I wanted to see how long it would take for them to answer, one number I was on hold for 35 minutes! Another one for only 28 minutes... Good thing I have a speaker on my phone, I was able to get some housework done while I was waiting! I gave up after the last number was called and I got the SAME "elevator music!" This company's review process is fraudulent and they make decisions not based on the real issue but to avoid paying for repairs. Our washer was making a noise and we called for inspection. The technician's recommendations to us was that the problem was due to normal wear and tear. AHS tells us it is due to overload based on the technician's recommendation. They indicated that they don't have anything in writing and they only collect verbal recommendations from technicians. How can I as a consumer trust that AHS does not change the diagnosis to their benefit so they don't have to pay. Do not sign up with this company. I had a clog in my plumbing line and as a result all bathrooms were backed up. I called numerous times and clarified I needed this done ASAP as I have a small child in home and nowhere else to go. Days passed and hours spent on the phone with customer service agents that have no customer service skills. There is an absurd disconnect with the overseas representatives and it should be addressed.
At this point I have verified with an agent a plumber will be dispatched days later and they will have septic ability. Plumber comes and spends no more than 15 minutes in my yard. He tells me this issue is a septic issue and he doesn’t have septic ability. That my problem is not covered by my warranty and that I need to call a septic service. Irate, I call the septic service and pay for them out of my own pocket because we have gone a week without working toilets and your contractor is telling me that’s the next step. The septic service advises that the issue was a clogged pipe that the plumber should and could have addressed and that my septic tank was fine.
After snaking my line the problem was solved $150 later. So I call in to have this refunded as well as the $75 useless plumber service charge. After many calls, long hold times, and dropped calls from overseas agents I got Rachel who advised me to send in my receipt to a fax number and her and her supervisor would review and follow up. I have forwarded this receipt now 5 times via fax, verified the fax number and still it has not been addressed/received. Today I call and am expected to reexplain all of this because nobody can check the file. I specifically ask for an email address to scan this document and low and behold am provided with one. This should have been offered the first time I was asked to send my receipt. Overall the service has been poor and I am still waiting on a refund. I have spent hours of my life trying to get help on this, weeks have passed and still no resolution.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a dishwasher that wasn’t receiving electricity. Then the contractor called me to make an appointment within 48 hours. They could have come out within a day or two, but I had family in town, so I pushed the service appointment back and I was able to schedule it for a week later.
I bought this house, which is like a flipped home, and the flippers took a lot of shortcuts with it, which is so annoying. What happened with the dishwasher was that they just hadn't screwed the plate on and connected the wire properly, so it was a really easy fix. But in order to get around the dishwasher, the tech would have had to disconnect the waterline and do plumbing work, which is not what he does. So he reached behind my dishwasher, laid on my dirty kitchen floor for an hour, and did the entire job one-handed so that he could get it done sooner for me and he wouldn't have to call a plumber out to disconnect the waterline, then he could get back there. He was awesome and everything has been operating wonderfully since the repair. We were hand-washing dishes and drying them out before the repair, so doing the dishes is way easier now.
Our AHS warranty has been incredibly valuable because this was the third time that I've had service people come out. One was for the heater when it got cold here and another one was for an electrical issue. I'm definitely thinking hard about renewing my warranty with AHS for the next year since I've used it a lot. AHS is worth the cost, especially because most of the houses in my neighborhood were built in the 1970s and as things are progressing, they're all getting little issues here and there. So, I would definitely recommend AHS.

I've used American Home Shield several times and I would recommend them. I have not had a problem with any of the work that their contractors have done, although they did have to come back and do something else. But that was a planned move so I don't have a problem with them. When we thought there was a leak from a pipe in our utility room, we called American Home Shield and the reps on the phone were excellent. About four days later, the contractor was able to come out. Before then, the leak continued but it was not a major one and we were able to take care of that until the plumber got here. Plus when I had called American Home Shield, I was able to get the name and the telephone number of the agency that was supposed to come out. So if it had been a bigger issue, I could have called in and asked that they come quickly. It was done professionally and quickly.
The two plumbers got here when they were expected to come and they were gentlemen. They came in, took their shoes off and went to work. They seemed to know what they were doing and once they found the problem, they fixed it and explained it to me. It wasn't the leak on the side. The toilet seeped. The seal on the bottom of the toilet was what was leaking and that was right next to the utility room. They showed me the item that they had to remove and left. It was not a long stay. They were here for less than an hour and there's no more leaking now. I had also asked if there was damage to the wall and they did tell me, which was a positive thing. They said it was very minor and suggested that I put a heater in the room and close the room off for a day. They also told me not to let anyone use the toilet for 24 hours because they had put a seal around the bottom of the toilet, and everything went fine.

Then they sent the plumber back out there. He checked the line and found several leaks. He called American Home Shield and gave them the estimate but they wanted a second opinion. It was late at night on the 28th.
We told them it was an expedited claim because the meter was taken out and it was cold. We had to move the tenant out because she couldn't stand it. American Home Shield was gonna set up an expedited claim but it wasn't. They called Comfort Heating and Air who told us on the 28th that they couldn't get out there until Monday, the 31st. I called American Home Shield back and they said they were gonna expedite the claim and send Leak Detection. That was supposed to happen on the 29th, which would have been that Friday.
Once I got the email, I called rather than wait on Leak Detection to call me. But they said they haven't heard from American Home Shield Home Shield. They said they didn't even have me on the schedule. But when I get an email from American Home Shield, usually the company would get the same email and they would know about it. So I don't know if the rep was just telling me that. But they also said that there was no way in the world they could get out there the next day. They said they couldn't get out there until Wednesday. I called American Home Shield back and they said they had talked to somebody named Rick at Leak Detection. They were gonna call Leak Detection back to find out why they were telling me that. The problem was we couldn't book somebody else until they tell us they can't come. And it was getting into the weekend.
The service was going to be Monday at the earliest because I already had a company that said they could come on Monday. I called Comfort Heating early Monday because they said the schedule would be between 8:00 and 12:00. They called me back and said the guy had called in sick. They said the service would not be until the next day. That was New Year's Day but when I asked, the lady said, "Yeah. Well, I'll be here so I guess they'll be here too." But she called me back that night, at around 7 o'clock, and said I was right. They were not gonna be able to make it the next day. So they pushed the service out for Wednesday.
The technician called me about 10 minutes to 5:00 and he was asking where I was at. I told him that I was waiting for a call or a text. He said that he had advised he was coming but I never got a call or a text. It turned out that I got an email at 4:06 saying people were on the way from Comfort Heating and Air. But I didn’t check my email and I missed that because nobody called. The technician gets off at 5:00 but he waited on me and he was such a nice guy. It was Sam from Comfort Heating and Air.
He asked how many appliances I had. I said I got a washer, a stove, a furnace and the water heater. He said he would run the line, from the meter to two appliances and we were gonna call it a day. He also said that he had been doing the job for 30 years. What I think he was saying was that we should have done it a long time ago. I don't know why American Home Shield got all those other claims. We didn't even need them. I even asked American Home Shield if I could go ahead and fix this then they would reimburse me. But it worked out, other than it cost me money. I lost more than I had to take since I couldn't charge the tenant rent. The technician is still coming though. He told me they would put me on the expedited list and bump me to the top because we don't have any heat. He said the appointment would be the next day, afternoon.
American Home Shield is supposedly the best warranty company in the business. That's the reason why I've had them for years. But even though I kept calling, nobody answered the phones. That is probably how they could pay these claims though. They keep their overhead down. I was on the phone for hours at a time. I walk around with the phone in my pocket, singing their song in there. And the vendors have the same problem. So whatever American Home Shield is doing as far as people answering the phone, that's bad. They've gotta fix that wait time. That's just craziness. Once the people got there though, it was great. The people are the nicest as they can be.
The other thing is if the client said that the vendor said he couldn't do the work, American Home Shield probably needs to take the client's word for it and call somebody else, especially in this kind of industry. I understand their policy that they don't want two vendors going out there at the same time though. Their problem would be that there are clients who are dishonest. But that's some craziness maybe. It’s also a shame to say that there needs to be a better warranty company out there because American Home Shield is still the best one out there. This is the experience with the best one out there. That's crazy.
Good afternoon Jeremy,
Your concerns are understood regarding the water heater and appliance repairs that were completed. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience regarding the delay.

Recently, the refrigerator was working but it was making a loud noise, so we asked for repair through American Home Shield's online portal and that option for claim submission was fine. We were given a two-hour window on when to expect the contractor, National Platinum Services, to come out. The tech called when he was 15 minutes away. He was very professional and knew what to look for. He fixed the ref while he was here and it has been working fine since the repair. We've had a warranty for years and we've had more than one claim with AHS. Having a warranty is very valuable.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Shelley. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

Every time I would use the water or try and get ice, water would leak down the refrigerator wall. American Home Shield sent Whirlpool to fix the ice maker and the guy who came was very good. He did a really good job and explained a lot of things to me. He was able to take care of everything. American Home Shield has been very good.

When I did some research, American Home Shield was online and they made their warranty sound better than that of the other competitors. I've been with them for two months now and I'm happy with their service so far. Recently, I had an electrical issue and I called AHS, made a payment, and requested for an electrician to come out and look at the issue. I didn't have electricity for two days, so that was bad. I asked if the repair could be expedited, but they said no, and that was the only downside. Other than that, the electrician that came out was cordial and professional. He did what he was asked to do and I had a good experience.

I called American Home Shield and H&P replaced the heating portion of our central air and also the blower fan motor. It was done in a timely manner. The contractor announced when they would work, they got the work performed, and then they let us know everything was fixed. It has been operating a lot quieter and it doesn’t take as long to heat as it did before. AHS is a great company. My cousin has their insurance also. It’s a necessity to have in case of emergency. That way, you’re only paying the deductible and hopefully, it will be taken care of in a timely manner.
Good morning Larry,
It was a pleasure reading your feedback. I am pleased to hear about how fast the contractors were able to correct the blower motor issue.

American Home Shield was good. We just moved in and started to turn stuff on, and got a couple of leaks in the laundry room, one at the main shutoff in the garage, and then, Joe was in the crawl space, and he saw a leak down there too. We were first-time homebuyers and we were really worried, and it made it hard to do our laundry. Submitting the claim online was easy.
The contractor sent seemed professional and knowledgeable. He talked us through what was going on and told us what the options were and how to get it fixed to make sure that it was still covered. So, he explained that if we do any modification, then we would have to pay out of pocket, which we appreciated 'cause we just bought a home. So we didn't really wanna spend a bunch on plumbing. Our experience went really smooth. We were both surprised and happy, that right after we submitted the claim, three minutes later, we got a call from the plumbing place. That put us at ease knowing that we had something set up. So that was nice.

When the belt on my Samsung dryer locked up, I called American Home Shield and they had someone text me right away. It was over the holidays so they got to me as fast as they could. They contacted me just prior to the holidays to set up an appointment. The tech they sent out was excellent. He came in, his feet were clean and he asked what was going on and I told him that the dryer started smoking and it just locked up. I told him that I assumed it was the belt, to which he said I'm right. It took him about 10 minutes to take the thing apart, and it was indeed the belt. He went to the pickup, came back and put the belt on and was very gracious and professional. Then he gave his phone number and his card.
I have used the contractor a couple of times and they've always been efficient. When the dryer had the tumbler bearings, they were right on top of it and ordered the parts. Although it took a little longer to get the parts, that wasn’t the guy’s fault. In fact, it was the same guy who had actually fixed it. Overall, American Home Shield is an excellent program. It's cost effective for the homeowner too and it's well worth it. I definitely recommend AHS.

My realtor suggested American Home Shield and I've been with them for two and a half months now. When I had some issues with my furnace, I called them to file a claim and they took care of everything. The weather was cold, and I had to run my stove and the space heater because I couldn’t get any heat in my home. Their contractor, A Johnson Heating & Cooling, came out and our interactions with them were very personable. Their technician explained to me everything that he was gonna do, and what he had done.

There was a problem with one of my HVAC units. The upstairs was not cooling correctly. Submitting the claim online with American Home Shield was easy. It took two days before United Air Temp came out for the repair. I had a good interaction with them and they fixed the problem, but they charged me $135 for some other electrical piece that they said I needed. So I bought it but they said it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield, so I had to take the contractor's word for it.
The unit has been operating good since the repair. Having AHS has been somewhat valuable. There was some trouble the year before where I needed somebody to come out to my house five times, and they still didn’t fix the problem. I had to report something at the Better Business Bureau because it was ridiculous. It took a month to fix a problem and there were five different technicians. So that still sticks in my mind. Having AHS is like having a health insurance. It sucks, but you gotta have it.

The lights in the refrigerator wouldn't come on. I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield online and the experience was really good. In a day, the company, Jay's Appliance, got hold of me and the tech named Steve came out. He was amazing, nice, clean and very professional.

The heater on my second floor wasn't heating. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. It was a very easy process. However, I had a bad experience with the first company that came out - Family Heating and Cooling. They did the work but they waited for a part. They never informed me what the part was, when it was gone, or when they were coming back. Nevertheless, American Home Shield was very responsive and resolved it very quickly. They found me a second contractor and the experience went well.

I was replacing the existing thermostat which was an old one, with a Nest. After I filed the claim with AHS, the fellow from Royal AC came in and he was amazing and professional. They checked my AC units and found that my main AC was almost about to die. Come Houston weather, it’s gonna fail so, we ended up replacing it and it has been working nicely.
When I call the 1-800 number of American Home Shield, it’s very difficult to reach any person so, I have to go the online route which is easier. However, you sometimes need to talk to people. You need zero explanation online and sometimes, I need that friendly hand to ask if I need to make a claim or if I can talk to an expert who can say if it was something that I could fix myself. I would love to have that kind of service but that is non-existent. If they have an expert online, I am very handy. I can fix most of the stuff myself and I might not have to call for small issues such as electrical stuff or a faucet breaking which were easy things.

We had two claims. The most recent one was for the oven and it was the longest. It has taken two months to get it repaired. They tried to repair the oven first. They sent the motherboard out and it came back from being repaired with them, so it took some time. It still did not work, so we have a new oven being delivered today. The other claim happened to be a central unit and the motor went bad. We worked out a schedule, they came out, replaced the motor and it’s working fine. There were no problems speaking to the reps from AHS. It’s usually a long wait, but otherwise, beyond that, it usually goes rather quickly. The techs who come have been excellent as well.
The length of time of being without an oven for two months was ridiculous. Still, I now understand the part was being shipped out for repair because they can’t replace it. How they were going to do the work was, they would repair for $300 or they would give me $300. Well, the oven is worth more than that. As it is now, they spent $300 more than they originally would have if they would replace in the very beginning. They sent the part out for repair and then it came back and it still didn’t work. So whoever they used for repair is reliable to us. Even so, I've recommended American Home Shield to my mother and my step-parents.

Updated on 01/04/2019: This company responds IMMEDIATELY to a negative review. But it is apparently only to get the mark above to SEEM as if they working toward a resolution. I got a private message nearly immediately. Even though I DID reply to that, here we are... Still nowhere. I will not let them continue doing this to anyone else. I am not an angry customer. I am a reasonable but fed up one. I 100% intend to spread the word.
Original Review: I have had AHS for all of my properties for as long as I can remember. I have had some good experiences BUT the bad outweighs the good in this regard. FIRST of all the UNBELIEVABLE runaround to get to customer service is almost scary! The hold times are absolutely unreasonable. And the last service call I needed was so mishandled. I was even told that the reason they had to deny was only known to a certain department and customers aren't allowed to talk to that department. That is absolutely no exaggeration. I'm currently on hold for 30+ minutes to cancel each of my policies. I will take my business elsewhere. I no longer trust this company.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I called about a water heater. The repair folks came to assess the situation. They were fine. But then I received a confusing email that basically said that the water heater situation was fixed. The job is not complete. I think better communication is needed. Hiring more people to answer the phone and field questions is what is needed.
