My microwave was not rotating and I submitted the claim online. Their website works well, and the contractor AHS sent out was excellent. He came, looked at it, noticed the part, did problem-solving, fixed it, ordered the part, and put the part in. Everything seems to be working now. Two years ago, I also had an issue with the plumbing. The service contractor they sent, however, was not knowledgeable about what he was doing at all. They said they were gonna send somebody else, but I ended up fixing it on my own and paying for it. When people complain, AHS should put a strike against the company and when people have so many complaints, AHS shouldn’t hire that company to come out. Still, I’ve referred many people to AHS.

The water spigot where we get filtered water was dripping constantly and AHS sent Quality Appliance Service. The gentleman who came out put in a new motor because he said a grain of sand got stuck in it so it couldn't close the valve. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He also advised us on changing the filter and after he left, we changed the filter ourselves. The water flowed a lot better after that and we appreciated his input in that.
Good morning Aniko,
Thank you for your feedback regarding the water spigot claim. I am glad to hear about the contractor that serviced you and the repairs that were completed.

Our dryer was making a rubbery noise, our washer had a mildew smell, and the refrigerator was making some noise too. Someone from All Valley Appliance, Heating, and AC came out. The guy was very professional and he was here for about an hour and a half. He took the entire dryer off. He found the issue which was the wheels that were holding the big tube. He replaced all of them. He did a good, clean job. Then he checked the washer and found that there was a little of bit of smell coming from the sewer or something like that. He cleaned it up and then turned out that it was okay. The same thing with the refrigerator, he tested it out and he said that it was okay. Everything about it was good.
The thing was that once he left, my wife ran the machine and the dryer made a loud noise. Then it went back to making the rubbery noise that it was making before he came. So, we called them back up to come back and we also called American Home Shield to report that the dryer is not yet fixed. AHS arranged for them to come back and fix it so they’re scheduled for next Wednesday.

The garbage disposal was leaking and I submitted a claim through the American Home Shield website. I made an error in the initial claim that needed to get done. I put the wrong equipment. It should have been another. When I called up AHS, they knew exactly what needed to be done and then they changed it very quickly. The response time was within an hour. The contractor who came out seemed to be very knowledgeable about what needed to be done. He assessed what was the problem, and recommended a replacement given the age of the disposal and then the corrosiveness of the seals. The technician made sure that there were no leaks with the disposal. He made sure that everything was cleaned up around the area where he was working. And he was very respectful of my household. So far, the garbage disposal has been working well since the repair.

Our heater wasn’t working and it was really cold. We had to use base heaters as an alternative and it was difficult with two small children. We placed a call to American Home Shield, described the issue and they told us that they would assign a contractor. We got an e-mail shortly afterwards telling us that the contractor would be here the next day. The first company that came out couldn’t fix it. They weren’t familiar with the system. So we called American Home Shield back and they were very quick and responsive. The lady that we spoke with promised to get someone out that same day and within a few hours, we had another contractor that was able to fix the issue. The contractors were very professional and the experience was very positive. It was not easy without heat but they worked on it very quickly. This experience definitely made me feel much better that we decided to go with AHS.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Olubusola. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

The most recent claim I had was for the faucet and the contractor came right away. My wife did the claim online initially then I got a phone call and made an appointment. The people from Hardy Plumbing put a part in, fixed the faucet and did a good job. It is very good now. Having the warranty was very valuable and I would recommend it. It's helped me a lot in trying to find somebody who's already got credentialed by American Home Shield to make sure that they're already insured. Then they did a good job in a timely manner.

I've never really had to use my home warranty before. I was home last week on a staycation and I wanted to get things fixed that I haven’t had time to call in. We were having issues where the water wasn’t stopping in the toilet. Anytime Home Services came and replaced the innards. However, I’m still in the process of working with that claim with the company because when they left, the toilet started leaking and that hasn't happened before, and it went to the floor. But they’re doing a really good job so far on handling that. They stopped the leak, and I just have to follow up on some mistakes. I need the e-mail address to send the pictures of the damage to ‘cause this all happened over the holiday weekend. They were out within about 12 hours to do it on a Saturday. I have to call them today to see where we’re at as I haven’t heard from them. As of my last conversation with them on Saturday, it was going well.
The only thing that I was disappointed in was I had two plumbing scenarios, and I had to do two different claims to American Home Shield and pay two different fees for the same day. It wouldn’t let me do two different plumbing-related issues on one claim. The first one that came out was for my Whirlpool tub and they didn’t even need to do anything. It was actually just similar ones and if somebody had just been able to educate me that was what it was supposed to do, I wouldn’t have had to pay the 75 bucks. It was just the guy telling me that it works. But American Home Shield's coverage has been okay so far.

My furnace was not working. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and it was easy. They sent out HVAC Experts and they got a hold of me within the hour. Their tech was also great. He was out here that afternoon, identified what the problem was, ordered the parts, and everything went smoothly. He had to come back out a second time on Monday to install the part and the furnace has worked fine since then. They did a good job and everything is great.

Our dishwasher failed and was not working. And with the holidays coming, and a number of entertainments planned, we were very concerned that we did not have a functioning dishwasher at the end of it. So, I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. They called us back and told us that a repairman from Sears will be coming out on a Friday but he never showed up. I was home all day waiting and the repairman reported that he was unable to contact us. But, there was no record of a phone call. We knew he was lying about it and he apparently just didn't wanna come up. Moreover, when we contacted Sears and complained about no one showing up, they told us that their next appointment was the end of January, for it was the end of December.
So, we called American Home about it and they took care of it. They called either the same day or the following day and told us that they would have a repairman out on Monday. The repairman showed up on time and diagnosed the problem. He said that they had to order a part which would take about three days. Then, they contacted us that the part was there. He repaired it for us and it went very well. Our house is new and it was nice that the sellers of the home bought the appliance insurance for us and it worked out this time. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I go online when submitting a claim with American Home Shield. The plumbing issue we had was a stoppage and the contractor who came out was excellent. He came early but he called first to make sure it was all right. That was one plus. Then he got here at the time he said he would. He analyzed the problem and went about fixing it. Everything went according to the way he had analyzed it and you can’t get any better than that. I would recommend American Home Shield. In fact, when our contract is up, we’re planning on continuing it.

I normally submit my claims with American's Home Shield through their website. It is good and in the two times that I've used it I didn’t have any problem with it. When I submitted a claim with AHS recently, I initially waited 24 hours but the contractor, Advanced Cooling and Heating, didn't meet the time frame that I was given on when to expect them to come out. But I called them and as soon as I got their attention, they started working with me and they did what they were supposed to do. When they came out, they were good and the interaction that I had with them was reasonably professional.

I was heating up some stuff in the microwave when it completely went out. It was a microhood and it vented outside. I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and I got through somebody in less than five minutes. I told them what happened and they were really great. The rep was good and she helped me through the process. She said she would get in touch with Sure Tech as soon as possible and have someone out here. The following morning, somebody was here and within two days, the problem was resolved.
The technician that was sent out here was great. He knew what he was doing and he was very up-to-date on the microwave. He checked out the unit and said the magnetron was the problem. Then he went back to the office and checked to see how much the part was gonna cost and his labor. He called me back and said it was gonna cost too much to fix it, but he was gonna do the paperwork and send it to American Home Shield. He said that if I don't hear from him in three days, I should call him. I waited until the following Monday and I called and told them what had happened and what the guy told me.
American Home Shield, however, said that he hadn't sent the paperwork in yet. So the rep called him and talked to him, and he told her the same thing that he told me. He said that it was gonna cost more to fix the unit than to buy a new one. I told her I was gonna buy one, and then I’d keep the receipt and they could reimburse me. She told me to go ahead and do that, and I would be getting a letter from them telling me how much they would reimburse me and to just send in the receipt. So that afternoon, I bought a microwave and put it in, and everything was fine.
I dealt with American Home Shield in the past, and my water heater went out one time. However, it was gonna be almost two weeks before they could get a technician out here to look at it. They said that was the best they could do but I couldn't wait. The water was awful in my bathroom and I had my dad living with me that time. He was a 94-year old World War II vet and I had no hot water and I tried to explain that to him. Although it was like it wasn’t a big deal to American Home Shield, but to me, it was. So I just cancelled my request for service, went to Lowe’s, picked up a water heater and installed it myself. I’ve been using American Home Shield for over 20 years now and that issue with the water heater was the only negative thing that I had with them. Other than that issue, they’ve been really good.

I called American Home Shield to put in the claim and I wanted to make sure they knew that this was the fourth circulator I would be getting. I waited almost an hour on hold, but I needed to talk to somebody to get that across and it was fine. But AHS could institute a callback system, which would be good. Other than that, the contractor was fine. I have our two refrigerators in there right next to the water heater, so he really had to work to get it in and soldered in properly. He did a very good job and made an effort to get it in, so I was happy.
I had a circulator vent I had replaced and it was on the water heater. It circulates during the busy hours so that I don't have to run water. The contractor replaced it and then he upgraded me, which was really good because, after the second one, I thought I needed a different model. This guy came with a bigger model, and I think it's gonna work longer and be much better. He also checked the toilets for me while he was here. Overall, I was satisfied with my experience with AHS.

We had our dishwasher and our stove repaired through AHS under the same time, and they are both working now very well. The claims process was very easy. I send the information via mobile and I get response probably within several hours. The contractor came and reviewed the stove. It needed a part. They came back with the part within 2 days and replaced it. That worked very well. When he looked at the dishwasher, he said it needed a plumber so a plumber was sent out and the plumber made the repair.
He found something that was done incorrectly, probably when the house was originally built, and he corrected it. Everything has been working fine since. Also during the summer time, we had our AC replaced under Home Shield and it went very, very well. But it developed a vibration, and I'm probably gonna call and have them come back out. Nevertheless, everybody that AHS sent have done their job. AHS overall has been very professional and very efficient.

It takes 20 minutes to sit there and get through on the phone with AHS. I know they’re a big company but when I have to sit there 20 minutes just to talk to a rep because I don’t always have internet, then there’s a problem. There have also been other times I have submitted claims and American Home Shield did not end up covering the problem. I had a claim for the air conditioner as the blower motor went out. One contractor wanted to replace the whole AC upstairs. It would cost $1,900 and I said the whole thing doesn’t need to be replaced because I’m not one to just spend money uselessly no matter whose money it is.
AHS sent somebody else out and I had to pay an extra $125 for that because each time that they send somebody out and if it’s the same issue, it’s $125 out of my pocket. I’m retired and I don’t have that kind of money all the time to do the repair the way it should be. The second contractor that came out were very nice people. The rep says, “You’re right. It is the blower motor.” I ended up for $700 getting the problem fixed, but it came out of my pocket not American Home Shield. And to me, they should’ve covered it. I’m not the one that put the AC unit in there.
They’re saying that my return air is the wrong size. I’m not an AC person but when somebody comes out to replace an AC, then it should be done properly. If it wasn’t, it should not be on me. Telling me that the return air is wrong and the thing has worked great for 20 years, no, I’m sorry, I’m not that stupid. I’ve had to pay so much out of my pocket and I'm paying every month. Why are they not covering what they are supposed to? I ended up having to pay out of my pocket and I’m seriously still debating filing a legal claim on it.
Other than that, I had a claim wherein I didn’t have any water in my house. AHS sent out 77 Water and they were awesome. They were tied up on their job and their rep told me ahead of time. I had another call to make and I said, “Just give me an hour’s lead time so I know and I'll make sure I’m there.” She let me know and she said that this job took longer and they were gonna go get some lunch. They told me they would be at my house at roughly between 4:00 and 5:00. They were there at about 4:45, which was perfect. I have never had any company stay in touch with me as well as they did.
Good morning Sheila,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated to help us improve the level of customer service that you have experienced. I understand your concerns regarding the air conditioner repairs that have been completed and the noncovered cost. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Updated on 1/25/2019: Today 1/25/19 we were finally reimbursed $670. They did not reimburse us the $70 deductible even though we did their job, spent hours (no exaggeration) on the phone with them and paid out of pocket. For $670 AHS is not worth the aggravation and time. Will definitely be going elsewhere. They don't have the service connections in my area.
Updated on 01/16/2019: After finally getting authorization from AHS for us to locate appliance repair, we did get our refrigerator and microwave fixed on 1/9/19 that we had to pay out of pocket $669.04. On 1/7/19 we received an email from Stacy **'s (social media dept) instructing us to email the invoices upon completion to the email Stacy provided. On 1/9/19 at 2:15 PM Eastern, I emailed the invoices. This morning, 1/16/19 at 8:50 AM Eastern, I called in. Was told it was going to be escalated and that she could not find the invoices.
Original review: December 19th 2018 I did an online service request for a refrigerator-icemaker and microwave. We have been a customer on a previous home and when we bought this home in October 2017, we purchased the 2 year option. Wish I hadn't. Definitely will not be renewing.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We had water coming out very slowly on the hot side and I thought that it was something with the pipes. I called in to American Home Shield to file a claim. I was very surprised that they were able to get someone during the holiday week. J&H Plumbing of North Carolina came and I never had a contractor sent out from AHS or any other that was that good. The guy came out during the weekend and there was no extra charge for that. He said that he works every day. He was very knowledgeable, on time, and sent text to let me know he was on his way. While he was here, he was letting me know what was going on and what he was trying to find. He knew what he was talking about. He replaced some pipes and when he got through that, he thought that was what it was. It actually wound up being up in the spigot and he couldn’t get to it so he had to put a new faucet spigot in. The best contractor and reaction I've had in a long time.
I've not always had great experiences with American Home Shield. It's hit-and-miss sometimes. I went with Choice Home Warranty first because when I Googled home warranty companies, they came up with 9.9 stars. Then somebody told me, "They must be paying people to write good comments because my experience with them was not very good." We had a water heater that was leaking and they said they don't do water heaters that leak. They only fix what was wrong with the interior and they didn't want to repair what I needed to be repaired. I told her I called AHS and told them exactly what it was, and they said it's covered. She went out and sat in her truck for 35 minutes, came back in and said, "Yeah, it has to be from your hot water heater because you flushed the hot water heater." First off, it was not hooked up to my hot water system. Second, I have a filter in the way for that not to be even possible and the water was running freely.
She didn’t even know how to turn the hot water on. While she's pushing the button and says, "Look, there's no hot water coming out. It's plugged up." I said, "Look. There's a arrow pointing to the left. It's a safety feature. Push the arrow to the left and push it down."I was not pleased with that company. I don’t want to see this company in my house again. She didn’t fix anything and I paid $100 for nothing.
I'm waiting on a second opinion from AHS. They're supposed to be sending another company out. They did try to send the same company back out and I called them yesterday and said, "What's wrong with you guys? Why are you gonna send the same company?" One thing I don’t understand is when a company doesn’t do their job and American Home Shield just goes with that. They didn’t call and ask me any feedback on it. They did not ask my opinion about what she did and I'm the customer. Other than that, everything's fine. I like American Home Shield. I just don’t understand the way this one's running. But I'm sure they're working on it."

Stockdale Service Company came out and let us know that it might've been a roof issue versus the air conditioner and they cleaned up everything that they saw while they were there. They were very professional, very polite, very patient, and thorough, and they tried to explain everything to us. Even though the problem wasn't necessarily fixed completely by the people who came, they were very assertive. They provided superior service and all the way around, as far as politeness and understanding, they were very professional.
Good morning Shannon,
Thank you for sharing you experience with us! I am pleased to hear about the air conditioner repairs that were completed.

I needed to have locks rekeyed. I tried to call American Home Shield and sat on hold for 30 minutes. I then went through their website to see if I can submit the claim there and found it to be much easier and certainly faster. I was given 24 business hours before I would get a call back to schedule. I submitted the claim on a Friday and the contractor, ACR Master Locksmith, came on a Sunday. The experience was exceptional and their technician was great. I wasn't expecting him until at least Monday. It's been a good service so far with AHS. I had to pay the downpayment for the service and it was right in the ballpark of what it cost to have them do it anyway.

I had a dishwasher that was messed up, a cooktop that was messed up, and then an older stove that had a leak. Whenever we have problems, my wife normally goes on the internet and tries to submit a claim through there. Mr. Appliance, the contractor who came out, was very good. I like the fact that before they come out, they send you a picture of who is going to show up, along with their name, and also give you their work phone number through that person. So, that way, you know who is actually supposed to be showing up. They do excellent work. I would highly recommend them. Everything that American Home Shield covered has been sufficient.

I tell everybody about Home Shield. My most recent claim, which I did online, was for the washing machine. The site was very good. The contractor was good as well. He had to get a part and we had to wait a couple of days, but he returned and got the job done. So he fixed the washer and it's been working good. Right now, we’re waiting for the dryer to get repaired but it’s been the holidays. At first, I thought it was leak. But the contractor said the dryer also has an issue, so it wasn’t just a leak.

I made two claims with American Home Shield - one for the washer and another for the dishwasher. I called in and waited for 45 minutes. It was a really long wait and it's ridiculous. If I submit a claim online, it’s handled, but if I call in, it takes forever to get somebody. Many times I’ve waited for 45 minutes, somebody connected to me and then got disconnected, so I had to wait another half hour to get back on. Nevertheless, AHS is gonna replace the washer but they haven’t called me yet about it and it has been a week and a half. For the dishwasher, I got two different opinions for it, and they’re not gonna listen to the second opinion. The first opinion on the dishwasher, they said it was a computer board on my dishwasher. They replaced that and the motor as well, but it didn’t work.
Thereafter, a second guy came out. The computer board started to work, but they needed to replace it because it was faulty. He also said that the motor went out because of an air gap. But the motor never went out. The guy replaced it without even knowing if the motor went out. AHS denied the claim. They won’t give me a new computer board because they said the air gap caused the motor to go out, but that wasn’t the issue. How does the air gap cause the computer board to go out? I have to go and fight with AHS over it or just fix the air gap and then they’ll cover it. The contractors AHS sent out have been really good, except the second guy who just looked and said what the problem was.

Updated on 12/23/2018: In addition to waiting for service only to be told once he arrived that it wasn't covered and just left, (electrically powered smoke detectors), we were billed for it! Had to call in to ask for bill to be removed since there is nowhere online to email anyone at AHS, and customer service takes forever to answer and doesn't know anything either! Phone calls tell you to contact online, you contact online and then find out it's not covered when and if they show.
We have had electrically powered smoke detectors to quit and cannot communicate with each other, an outside flood light quit that isn't covered under warranty since it is 'technically' not on part of roof that is over the foundation (it is located on corner of porch roof), have two GFI outlets located outside but not on house wall, not covered, lanai fan and lanai wall light out and not covered, and the list has more... NOT COVERED. CONNECT A PHONE LINE THAT IS ANSWERED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND WITH KNOWLEDGEABLE EMPLOYEES.
Original Review: We have had so many issues that seem to fall through the cracks with this home warranty. We have complained about the electrical provider they use since they are 3 hrs away and only come to our town twice weekly so the appointments are always backed up. Truck broke down so they rescheduled. AHS wants you to schedule online, but in doing so the service contractor shows up only to tell me he cannot fix my problem because it isn't covered. When on AHS site, the feedback connection is a vicious cycle and you cannot find an email address either to contact them. Phone help is not helpful at all. WE WILL NEVER USE THIS HOME WARRANTY COMPANY AGAIN.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I submitted a ticket to American Home Shield for drainage stoppage. I called it in and it went well. When I got off the phone with them, I got the service request number. So I called the plumber immediately, which is what they recommend. While I was on the phone, the request number came in to the plumber on the system, and they were able to sched me in for the next day. I always call the plumber to schedule. They have a certain amount of time they can call you in. And other times, they tend to call at the later part of it.
Last year I had a very challenging experience with the whole entire process. I had a plumbing issue around the 20th of December, and with the holidays and everything like that, it didn't really get resolved until about four weeks later. Nevertheless, AHS is pretty good. All home warranty companies have their pros and cons. One of the main thing was that it was Christmas time and their services can be hard to get.
With the recent claim with the drainage the contractor that came out was very knowledgeable about it. He didn't try to upsell me anything. He came, looked at the problem and told me what root cause was and so forth. And that was it. I paid the $75 that I had to pay, The repair is going good. From what he discussed it's a situation where I'm gonna need to have someone definitely come in and open up my whole entire plumbing system.

We had two problems with our refrigerator. The first was with the ice maker and the second was for the fan motor. We then filed a claim to AHS. Because of Thanksgiving, it took AHS three weeks to get a contractor out. Still, the guy who came was very nice. He said he put it in as an ice maker because it cracked where the ice holds. The next time, he came with just the motor and when I asked what about the ice maker, he said that what we had was a dispenser which is not covered by insurance. We then told him that it's not a dispenser and it's an ice maker.
So, we called AHS again and they said that the ice maker was covered. We then made another appointment for them to come. However, at that time, I had to be at work because I had no employee working. I then told the contractor that I would reschedule. My husband left a message to reschedule for them to come. Still, I don't understand why they had to come again because they knew that the ice maker needed to be replaced.
Since the repair though, things have been running smoothly. I don’t hear the loud motor noise anymore. It’s just the ice maker that I didn’t change, so we’re not using that. We have two icemakers, one from the top and one from the bottom. So, we’re only using the bottom one because the icemaker is cracked and we didn’t wanna make it worse. Overall, AHS's warranty has been good. I'd recommend my neighbors to use it because they'll never know when their home appliance will go out of hand and they might end up paying a lot of money if they don't get covered.
Good morning, Hannah. Thank you for your positive feedback. Please keep in mind of your recall period in order to request another service visit if the issue isn't resolved the first time out.

I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield and their website was very simple and easy to use. A contractor then came out in one day. He was very knowledgeable and got right in. I had a water heater that was leaking. I made my AH claim over the phone and this time, it was a good experience. I called before and they asked me what was wrong then said they would turn it in and a company would call me. But they didn’t really ask me what was wrong. All they knew was I told them that something was wrong with my washer. But this time, they got all the information they needed when I called.
At first, we came online and a rep bot made sure that she had all the information that I had said before. She made sure that everything was right. And then she asked me what was wrong with the water heater. She told me that she had gotten the company that was gonna call me and that I would get an email and a text, which I did. I would rather talk to a real person, though. I’m an older person. AHS thought somebody would come on a certain day, but the person called me that day and said they would come the next morning. Two days later, I got a new one.
So far, the people who have come out would let me know for example that they were gonna be there between 8:00 and 1:00. If I'm at work, they would call me 30 minutes before they were gonna be at my house so that I could leave work and meet them there. I love AHS because if I have a problem, all I have to do is call them and they usually get me someone right away or at least the next day. There was only one time that I had a problem, but that was a couple of years ago when somebody was supposed to come but didn’t. I had to call AHS back and they had to just get a different person. As soon as I called them, they found me someone else. I’m satisfied with AHS on the whole and everything has worked out great.

We had American Home Shield when we purchased the home in Tennessee in 2012 and we renewed our warranty every year. When we moved to Florida and purchased our home, we purchased American Home Shield again. That’s how pleased we are with the company and with the home that we’re living in now, they’ve replaced our well pump.
We also had an issue with our washing machine where they were paying for more parts than the washing machine was worth. It was a new washer because we purchased it when we purchased our home in Tennessee and we only lived there for three years. The same thing kept breaking down and the issue went on for months. I submitted multiple claims and AHS sent out multiple contractors to try to rectify the issue until finally, the tech said that it was easier and more cost-efficient for them to purchase us a new washer. So, that was what they did. We’ve had issues with our refrigerator as well and they’ve come right out. The contractors have all been wonderful and we love American Home Shield. They’re good and I recommend them to friends of mine.

The people we bought the house from had a warranty with American Home Shield and we just continued to pay the premiums on it. One time, the water heater went out in the middle of my son’s morning shower. He lost hot water and I went down and there was water on the floor. Initially, I forgot that we had the home warranty so I called Niebuhr Plumbing & Heating. They asked if I had a home warranty and I remembered that we have American Home Shield. Niebuhr said that they manage AHS' stuff but they had to get clearance from them before they replaced our water heater, so we did all that. Then, the new water heater came and they put it in. The new water heater is working beautifully without any problems whatsoever.
I called back a couple of days later because I was still cleaning up the water. The water had collected underneath the heater and I put a fan down there to dry it all up, but there was still water coming out underneath the heater. The contractor said that they would come and check on it to make sure that there was nothing wrong with the water heater. They came, looked at it, and said that the water was coming from our heater. One of the water heater people used to work for a carrier company and he said that he would take a quick look to see what was going on.
He took a panel off and he found where the water was coming from. He even showed it to me. He pointed at the two little rust spots inside my secondary heat exchanger, said that there was not supposed to be rust spots in there, and that it was where the water was coming from. He added that rust spots were already starting to indicate a problem and that right behind the rust spots were the water droplets.
We called American Home Shield first and they said that they would communicate with Niebuhr. Niebuhr Plumbing then called me and said that American Home Shield decided to replace the furnace. AHS said that replacing the secondary heat exchanger costs about the same price as the new heater, so they are sending me a new furnace. Right now, I am waiting on American Home Shield. They buy the product, give it to Niebuhr Plumbing, and Niebuhr has to install whatever American Home Shield sends them.
The furnace is gonna cost us $600 for the HVAC. The house was built in 1929, so they had to do some modifications to make the ductwork work. I paid American Home Shield 180 and Niebuhr 150 on top of that. It was an impact but it was much nicer than having to pay for the whole thing. The only complaint that we have is that it’s taking a little longer to get a heater, but I’m surprisingly very happy and satisfied. Other than that, the light went out on one of the switches in the basement too and we can’t figure it out. The light has been out for a couple weeks and I was waiting for the heater to get in before I hit AHS with the next thing.

Contacted American Home Shield for service on heat pump because it was not working. They advise me of the contractor I needed to schedule service with so I contacted them. That’s when they told me they could not come out at the earliest for four days. Told me would be there between 10 am and 2:00pm. I agreed. That day they showed up at 6:30 PM. Examined my heat pump. Concluded problem was a transformer that was shorted out and then advised me they could not repair problem at this time. Had to get with American Home Shield to get authorization to perform repair.
One day went by not hearing from them. I decided to log on to website to see if repair had been scheduled but was surprised to see they had repair had been completed. So I called their 800 number and after about 40 minutes got a hold of representative and explain problem. While I was on hold she called the contractor but could not get a response and advise me that she would find out something and call me know later that day. Later that evening I had a call from American Home Shield. She explained problem was not covered due to transformer apparently had an electrical overload from a power surge which my home warranty does not cover and that I could contract the contractor to fix it but would have to pay it out of pocket.
Idea it was told by their contractor they could not get out to me for another four days so I contacted a local AC contractor who came out the next day. Repaired problem for half of what American Home Shield contractor wanted me to pay. He also inform me these transformers burn up for no reason whatsoever and he could not understand why the AMS contractor said it was a power surge. Next day American Home Shield contractor contacted me and advised me American Home Shield had approved repair and wanted to set up an appointment but I advised him my problem had already been corrected and I would not need their repair.
After that I contacted American home Shield to see if I could get an out-of-pocket refund for repairs paid after they had refused the repair and was told no because I did not use their contractor for the repair even though now it was an authorized repair. After countless phone calls and waits on the phone for service I decided to cancel contract because all you get is confusion with them and not up to standards contractors who do not actually work for you but for American Home shield and then they would only give me a small portion of what I had paid for this contract. My advice to anyone considering buying one of their insurance policy would be to set that money aside and pay for repairs yourself because American Home Shield will not come through.

This service provided has been pretty useless for me: - We had a huge water main leak in the basement causing flooding. We called AHS & after a long time we got an agent who said that they will send somebody immediately and the plumber will call us. After 1 hour when nobody called, we called them, again waited for a long time and then they said that the “emergency” contractor was scheduled to come after 3 days!!! So we got another plumber to fix the leak. AHS would not reimburse the payment which they should have covered as part of insurance.
- We had a toilet bowl leak. We called AHS. We said that we have the toilet bowl leak as well as other plumbing issues. The agent told us that we can add additional services later if it is in the same category - plumbing. The plumber came in on the day of the appointment and when we mentioned about the other issues we were told that we couldn’t add any new request. - Anytime we call, we can never reach anybody on the phone – always on-hold music for a long time. - Even for the cancellation, I was on the phone for 72 mins.

We’ve had a couple of issues related to some AC repair because of the process of getting things approved when there had to be a replacement for my AC controller. But other than that, I’ve been happy with the service. They were able to get somebody out for my garage door quickly. I submitted the claim online, which was easy, and we had a guy out here at the end of the day. He was very good. He was pleasant, professional, and knew exactly what he was doing. Prior to fixing the garage door, he showed to us what was wrong and then after he fixed the problem, he showed us the difference. Since the repair, the garage door has been performing outstandingly. I’d recommend AHS.

My biggest complaint with AHS would be the wait time on the line when you’re waiting to talk to somebody. They don’t have enough people working for them. I call back and wait again. Finally, I get someone, but by that time, I am doing something else, and I can’t focus on what they’re saying. Thereafter, they disconnect and then if it gets disconnected, they don’t call me back.
Recently, our washing machine was making a lot of noise when it was in the spin cycle. As soon as it stopped working, we called American Home Shield. We reported it at least two months ago and then the machine is still not fixed. It’s a year old machine, so it shouldn’t have issues, but it does. Also, it should be a part they should’ve easily gotten. AHS said they’re not in the business to do emergency repairs, and it takes time to get parts. To me, that’s not responsible. I called back after 48 hours. I had to wait at least an hour to get through to someone or they would disconnect before you can get through. It’s been a nightmare.
I called the other day and they said that they had to order new parts, and those haven’t arrived yet. I don’t know how they do it, but we have a work order to order them. But who knows if anyone ever ordered them. One time, they said that they called me and that I didn't answer so they canceled the order and I had to reorder it again. It goes on and on. In the meantime, we’ve got another washing machine because we really need to use one and then we’ll see if that gets fixed. Nevertheless, AHS has helped us many, many times. They’ve done wonderful things, so we’re not quitting them. This is just an isolated case.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We had a malfunction of our garage door opener. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and a young man came over and said that we needed new roller bearings. When we finally got around working on the garage door opener, he reset the frequency, something that I had done a couple of times, and said that that ought to fix it. So, the garage door was opening by itself. Shortly after he left, the garage door opened by itself another time. And then the next day, it opened twice more by itself. We called back and said we didn't think it was fixed. This time, the technician came out and replaced the circuit board and told us that we needed to get our garage door maintained for $647. It looked like he was trying to sell us a new garage door instead of trying to fix the old one. But we talked him out of that, so everything seems to be good now. American Home Shield is the second policy we've had in this house and we're quite happy with it.

I had a toilet plumbing issue. I filed a claim online and American Home Shield's site is very user-friendly. It’s easy to use because I’m not a maintenance person and every description is very much specific to what you’re looking for. I liked it. The contractor that came out was the one I had used before. They’ll get ahold of you in 24 hours and schedule. Since they had an opening come up before my appointment time, they called to see if I wanted to utilize the time because of the technician in my area. The tech came, did his job, and was here not too long, and I haven't had a problem since. Having American Home Shield is worth it especially to those of us that are not handy-savvy. Although there is a charge for somebody coming out to do work, it’s a small price to pay compared to what I would be paying if I go out to find a private contractor. I’ll recommend them.

We've had American Home Shield since we moved to this state, and we had them in another state. They don’t cover everything, but they've done a good job on the things that we have covered. Our dishwasher was leaking and I tried to make a claim for it online, and that was a little bit of a problem. The website kept looping me into other areas there. I finally just called them at the 800 number and got it done that way. The young rep was very helpful. Also, the contractor called and gave me a window, and they were here within that timeframe. They had to order a part, and the technician should be here tomorrow to finish the repairs.

I called American Home Shield as I had issues with my heater and hot water heater. AHS handled everything. The interaction I had with their rep was great. She was professional and always tried to help out and do what she can. It took them 72 hours to get someone out here. The contractor for the hot water heater was okay. I liked that he knew his stuff and he figured it out. With my heater, I had to call AHS back because the heater started messing up again a week later. The contractor came back out two days later, and he couldn’t find anything wrong. Everything was working when he showed up.

My dishwasher wasn't draining the water. When I wash the dishes up, the water will hold and it will hold at the bottom of it when I finish. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and every interaction I had with their reps was great. The technician that came out was very qualified. He did everything with me and explained everything that was going on. A couple of times, the one that came to repair didn't get it repaired because the water was still holding in the bottom. But the guy who just left finished it so it's working properly. He had to put another piece in where my door is because a lot of parts in there were burnt out. Now, everything is working fine. I thank American Home Shield for staying with me and taking care of my dishwasher. I'm very satisfied with it. They took care of my problems even though it took a little longer and they didn't neglect me.

We had some sediment in the kitchen faucet. We're having low pressure, and everything else in the house had high pressure of water coming out. I put in a request online to American Home Shield and they gave me the time frame that they're gonna be here. They were even here 15 minutes earlier than the time frame, which I'm really appreciative of. The technician identified himself. He also drove a vehicle that was identifiable as a company that I was told that was gonna be here. I let him inside the front door, showed him the kitchen area, and that was where he started his work.
He diagnosed the problem, then he was gone for 20 minutes. He went and got a new faucet and the whole works to replace it because it was built up with hard water deposits, and that remedied the situation on that one. He was there for an hour and a half. He told us what the problems were. He was very cordial. We shook hands, and we thanked the good service that he was able to do for his company. I highly recommend American Home Shield for the price and for what they had to offer. I am the realtor that bought this house too, and I got their middle plan so I am someone with some experience. Anytime I've had a client, I've always recommended American Home Shield.
Good morning Marty,

We recently bought a house that has some issues with its appliances. Placing claims is easy and the dashboard on their website is very helpful. We've had a few different contractors come out and the plumber that came out was very good. However, when I try to call to talk to a customer service representative, I have to go through a menu of automated features before I could get to somebody to speak to.
My most recent claim was for the GE profile dishwasher. We had a technician come out a couple of times. The first time, the technician told us that there were two issues with the dishwasher. Number one was that it didn’t clean properly, and number two, the lower rack didn’t work the way it should. The second time that he came out, he tried to tell us that he wasn’t sure if the parts were covered and explained that we should be using the extra hot water feature when running the dishwasher. So we tried that, and we still got the same result. For example, a glass of lipstick on it doesn’t come clean. And there was the film that’s still on the dishes even after we ran the dishwasher the way he told us to. It's an expensive machine so even without the “extra hot water” feature, it should still be satisfactorily cleaning dishes.
So I called and I placed another claim in for the technician to come out and look at it again. They're coming to fix the wheel on the bottom rack of the dishwasher. So I called Mr. Appliance and told the receptionist or office manager that I'm not sure if it would make sense to put the wheels on the bottom rack of a machine that’s not doing its primary job. She said that the technician could look at the dishwasher and evaluate it again. But I feel like this technician isn't addressing the problem and that he's trying to push it back on us that it’s a user error.

I have rental properties and my tenant calls in the complaint to my property manager, who makes a service request online because it's just so hard to get on the phone with American Home Shield. Nobody answers the phone, and you're on hold for half hour. I have the $75 service fee and they usually make me pay for it before any service. It was kind of a mess. It's not a very good system. My tenant’s been paying it sometimes and sometimes I'm billed for it, and there's just no consistency. I really wish that there would be a better communication as far as everything.
With the last one the garage door did not open. American Home Shield contacted Smokey’s Garage Door. Smokey’s emailed me for what time they could come out, then I have to email my property manager, “Okay. They're asking me what time. Shouldn’t the tenant decide?” It's just many steps. But I am the owner, so I do have a right to know what they do, because I have to keep maintenance records.
Also about a year ago I had a company that’s just, “Oh, I don’t have to tell you what we did and stuff like this.” And then now when my contract would be renewed, they went up $14 per rental and they didn’t even tell us. And when I called I was on hold for 15 minutes, and then somebody finally came on the line and I could barely understand her English because she had a very thick accent. I said, “I love to speak to somebody else who has a little better command with English Language.” So, then, I was on hold for another 15 minutes, and another person came on the line, and she also had a very thick accent. She wrote a statement that said, “Your rates went up because American Home Shield is going to increase the caliber of their service people because a lot of them are just startup companies and they're not that great.” AHS just really don’t care. They just kinda have that attitude where they don’t care as long as they get their money.

The heat pump on my air conditioner wasn't warming up, so I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. The tech came out after a few days and my interaction with him was good. He troubleshot and diagnosed my system. He also gave me an alternative method to heat my house by turning on the emergency heat in lieu of the natural heat pump. Then the company put in the paperwork in trying to replace the part then I waited until they were ready and they had the part. It was approved by AHS and after a week, the company was able to bring the part in. After the repair, the heat pump has been working fine.
However, in the past, I had an issue with one of the contractors that AHS sent out. They were very low rated across the board. I also got passed around from contractor to contractor and at one point, there were three different contractors that were assigned within a two-day period. That was for my refrigerator and it took about six months before the issue was resolved. When AHS told me that they found me a contractor, I checked the reviews and they weren’t good. I asked AHS if they could assign me someone else and they gave me another option. I looked at their reviews and they were good, so I told AHS that I'd take them. Another guy came out when I called to tell them that the unit was still doing the same thing. He looked at it and he also looked at the outside. He turned one of the screws and the fan went off. There had to be a shortage in it, so we ordered a board. He came back the next day and put it in. Since then, it has been working fine.
The technician explained everything and he did good. You never know when something will break down and that can be expensive. This is the worst customer service experience of my life. Entered the service request November 17th. The contractor they assigned never returned my calls. After 2 weeks of this, I called American Home Shield, waited over 30 minutes on hold, and they assigned a new contractor. Contractor came out and determined dishwasher needed repair, and microwave needed replaced.
AHS emailed me a week later asking for specs on the microwave, which I provided right away. I asked for confirmation that they had everything they needed, and they never replied. Sent 3 more emails, to which they still haven't responded to. It is now December 21st and the contractor has no idea what's going on with the microwave. I call AHS, wait over 20 minutes on hold. Finally, someone answers, transfers me to another representative. I'm still sitting here on hold after 20 more minutes. As soon as they replace my microwave and fix my dishwasher, I'm dropping this company, telling my story to everyone I know, and all over social media. I'm disgusted by the amount of money I've paid this terrible company to be treated like this. Worst company I have ever encountered.

But reported to American Home Shield that the wiring needed modifying. This took 4 months. I followed up in Nov 1st week when I called to open another incident and the agent confirmed that I will receive a $100 refund for the erroneous charges within 2 to 4 weeks (Why that long... No idea). I waited patiently and called again later but to no avail. No refund so far!!!
There is no value for customers' time, with long wait time. There is no courtesy or process to track such issues and call back customers where they have been swindled out of their money. This should be a big customer satisfaction issue that any company should address. It seems they are quietly taking money from ignorant customers with their credit card on file and with an agreement to charge their cards.
I talked to agents at least 3 times and each time agent confirmed I will get a refund. But nothing so far. I expected better performance from a highly rated company. If they have so many customers, they should add agents. If they can't call back, they can also have a process to address customer complaints via a service desk ticket. A customer should be able to respond to emails with their questions or follow up, without hours of wait time. This is a basic customer support process from... i.e. provided they care. Hopefully, they will resolve my refund. I have got tired of calling them.

I've had a horrible experience trying to get my water heater replaced in a home I purchased 2 weeks ago! American Home Shield is trying to force me to use a plumber that refuses to drain or remove the old water heater. Not to mention the additional non code required automatic stop valve or requiring that I build a shelf that meets code because he won't use off the shelf stands or build it himself as a plumber. I don't see any reason to pay someone full price to do only half a job!
Cost of the repair isn't even the issue. I actually think this is the one place AHS has come through. However that pales in comparison to the problems. It's completely unacceptable to me to not allow a homeowner to have any say in the contractor doing the work on their home. Especially when the homeowner doesn't feel comfortable with the contractor that is assigned. American Home Shield hasn't even called me back to discuss this with me, I had to be told by the plumber that provided the second opinion. Don't buy American Home Shield warranties, it's a complete sham. Trying to figure out how I can cancel my policy so I can go with a competitor. This situation has convinced me how good an idea a home warranty is, but I will never suggest to anyone using American Home Shield to provide it.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone for a leak detection and my interaction with their rep was good, as usual. However, the contractor didn’t contact me. I was the one who contacted them. They scheduled me for Friday but then they called me right back and told me that they made a mistake, so they moved to Monday, which was okay. The tech came and my interaction with him was excellent. He asked me what the problem was and he did his diagnosis. He went to the main water valve and he said it was the irrigation system, and he told me that he had some good workers that could do the job, but it would take about two days. I asked him an estimate and he gave me a ballpark. He said he was gonna send me an estimate via email and then he left.
I started playing with the valves in the house and I had to call him back. He was already on the freeway and he came back and was able to find a couple of leaks. One coming from my daughter’s bathroom. It was a toilet valve that was leaking and it was seeping through the wall towards the side of the house. That was where we saw the moisture. I told him that I had noticed moisture on the wall and the ground. I went to move some stuff that was blocking the area and that’s when he went in and he felt that the wall has moisture on the bottom. He went to his vehicle and grabbed his machine to hear also the leak outside, in the ground. He put on headphones and he realized it wasn’t from the outside. He asked me if he could go inside the bathroom to investigate, and that was when we saw the drip from the valve that we had not noticed.
There was also another drip that I could hear from our master bathroom, which is on the same side of the house. He fixed both problems but there’s still a leak outside. He said it was the irrigation from the main valve that connects to all the irrigation for the house outside so I decided to just shut it off. I don’t hear the drip from my bathroom anymore and the valve in the irrigation has no drip too. Having this warranty gives me peace of mind.

I just wish that AHS would fix their customer service issue about answering their phone. If you'd push the button like you’d take out their service, they'd answer immediately. I’ve actually done it to where I messed around in the phone line to where I acted like I’d take out their service and I pushed that line. I got them to answer. But if you would need to physically speak to somebody, you'd literally have to wait on hold for three hours.
Right now, AHS owes me $900 ‘cause they bought us out on our washer. They haven’t done the claim and that’s been 90 days. The girl said that she would send me an email, and it would say all the steps of which buyout option I wanted. I asked her if she was sure of sending the email, and she said yes. She asked me what the deal was and I told her that if I had to get back on the phone with them, they wouldn't answer. She told me that she was sending the email that time but the email never came through. I had to waste another day for three hours, getting AHS to answer their phone. But we have them take care of our stuff, it’s great.

When my ice maker broke, I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and their claims process was not hard at all. It has always been easy to talk to their reps. The contractor who came was outstanding. He took his time to look and see what was wrong. However, he had to come back to fix it because he found something else. Nonetheless, I’m getting plenty of ice now. American Home Shield is a good company.
That's what we like to hear Cecilia. Thanks for being apart of the AHS family. Have an amazing weekend.

My oven wasn't working. There were some issues with the igniter. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Navigating the website was easy. The contractors came out quickly. After the repair, the oven has been working fine. Having a warranty is very valuable especially for homes that are older than five years old. I would tell others that American Home Shield has good quality service.

American Home Shield's dialing system is terrible. There have been times when I called, and it says they were at lunch, but it was past the time that said it was lunch. There were also literally a period where all day, it just went to a busy dial tone. So, I called from my work line and still the same thing. There was a part of me where I was like, "Okay, are they going out of business, what's happening?" I called AHS to get the appointment set quick and they said they would get someone out quick, and they did. When the tech got here, he asked if either AHS or anyone from his company asked me if the oven was a built-in, and I said no. So then, we had to get reassigned because his company doesn’t handle built-in ovens. This could have been just the vendor putting it on AHS.
The next tech who came out was friendly. He got right to the point so that was good. He was professional and good while he was there. However, he came on a Tuesday and the part that was needed wasn’t ordered until Friday. I had to call to follow up and see if the part is even there yet, so we can get them scheduled to come out. My wife also called AHS yesterday. She read them the Riot Act, and we were trying to sort it out because the process is that they have to order the part and then we wait for the part. The rep told us the part should be here by tomorrow and that my wife should call them. Again, I've been calling all day today and still getting nothing, but a busy tone. I also can't leave a voicemail. So, I don't know the status of our part.
Instead of this being done early December, now, here we are nearing the end of the month and still dealing with this. We are being patient even though it hasn’t been great with the current vendor we're with. We're waiting on the part now and we're just sticking it out. We're already too deep in at this point. But most of our concern has been with the vendor and not American Home Shield. We've had other issues like with the water heater and the dryer, and the experience had been awesome. I also love the process. AHS had been on it and someone got out quick.

When our garbage disposal wasn't working, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and their contractor came out once and got it to work. The following week, it wasn't working again so they had to come back out. They found a little plastic thingy in the blade and after that, they got the disposal working. Last week, I spoke to their rep when I got double billed for that service. I got an email saying that I was gonna be dropped from AHS because I didn't pay the $75 to Ability, but it was paid. They asked me to pay it again. That should have been noted because after that, I got a bill for the $75 from them. I was planning on calling them, but I've been so busy. I'm worried because I've been with them for so long, and for them to say that they're about to drop me because of this bill, I would try to get it cleared. The guy that I talked to said that he was gonna notate on my account that it was cleared up but then, I got this bill.
As for their contractors, everyone that has come out within the years that I've been with AHS has been good and I have no complaints. They come out and do the work and solve my problem with whatever appliance I have, and they have a quick response. I always tell my friends that if they really wanted a home warranty, they should go with American Home Shield. They are doing good.
Hello, Gwen. Thank you for your overall positive feedback. The billing issue has been cleared. I apologize for the inconvenience with all of that.

My heater wasn’t working and the reps of AHS answered and solved my problem in a timely manner. I needed an electrician and he got the electrician to come right out the same day, and usually, you have to wait. The electrician checked all the wires to make sure I would be able to get heat. The heater is now working fine. I've been with AHS for a while and they're good at coming out and fixing stuff. You don’t have to wait for a long time, and you don’t have to worry about them not fixing it. I recommend AHS to friends. I got my daughter and my niece to go with them. The warranty is good to have because you don’t always have the money. If I had to pay out of my pocket to get that heater fixed, ain't no way I would've gotten it fixed.

Upon submitting the claim through the internet, AHS was very prompt on getting back to me. From there, they assigned a specific contractor, Premier Appliance Services, that I needed to work with. Whenever we call them, the answering service personnel has been very rude and the waiting period to get a service is longer than what we expected. When they come in, they do a visual check-up and order the parts, but then the waiting period is completely wrong.
The contractor usually gives a window of three hours. They said 9:00 to 12:00, but they always show up at 11:45. When I called back at 11:30 saying and said that the guy was not here and asked the specific time would be, the person on the phone said that my window was from 9:00 to 12:00, so they don’t know what was happening. If they’re not at my house already at 11:30, what are they gonna do when they come in? If they come in at 11:55, are they within the window of coming in?
We dealt with the two service techs. The first was a Russian guy. He was very abrupt. He looked at the issue and said what the problem was and that he needed to order a part. I said fine. The order-taking part took almost four weeks. They were finger-pointing and said that the warranty company didn’t order it properly. Then the warranty company said it was shipped to the contractor and the item was lost. We were the ones suffering for four weeks without functioning appliances. Then when they came in to install the broken part, it wasn’t what was broken, but then there was the main ideology that the problem was a circuitry. He came back two weeks after though because it takes two weeks to set up an appointment.
Once the appointment was set, he came in here and evaluated it. It was a wiring problem. When it was first examined, it wasn't done thoroughly. We did multiple examinations, multiple waiting, multiple come in, check-ups, and doing their work. The whole event took from the beginning of November to mid-December. It took them six weeks to fix the one dishwasher. Plus, from December until now, the refrigerator is still malfunctioning.
If the call volume is large, I wish AHS has a way to have them call back to me by leaving my number. There was a time where I had to wait almost 30 minutes for the receptionist to answer the phone. Then once I received the phone, they asked me to hold. Then I have to hold another 15 to 20 minutes. One time, the call reached almost about 40 minutes.

I like the pool company that came out for our pump. The contractor was very honest and helpful. We had another pool company and when they came out before, they cracked the lid to the pump. But they tried to put some glue in it to fix it instead of replacing the lid, and it was sucking in air. Plus there were some screws that belonged on the outside but they had somehow put them on the inside of the basket of the pool.
Then when it stopped running, I called them and the technician said we needed a whole new pump because they wanted money out of us. But I didn't think we needed a new pump and that was when we went with American Home Shield. Their contractor took care of it and he was great. The pool pump didn't need to be replaced. The most recent claim I had with AHS was for a leaking handle of a shower. I tried calling American Home Shield and it is unbelievable how long I had to wait on hold trying to get an agent justto alert them that we're in a high rise. Yet American Home Shield has an uncanny ability to assign plumbers to us that don't work at high rises. And I've had it happen several times already where the whole claim would get dropped. I've tried requesting a company that does high rises and that has been met with mixed success. So, it's been a true hassle.
The contractor I like working is IGD Plumber. Their reps were professional and seemed to know what they were doing. But it took a very long time to have them because AHS first sent out someone else to diagnose the problem, which was a $75 charge. Then, they got the part, came back, and installed it which was another $75 charge. It took quite a long time between the first and the visit to do so I tried to follow up on billing because I got a past due notice on my latest $75. I said that they have a credit card on file and that they could deduct automatically. Because it was a changed company, it didn't transfer properly, so they said I had this $75 debt. They advised me to talk to the billing department which as another 20-minute hold. I was thoroughly disgusted.
They don't have a comment box for requests so I had to get on the phone to call them. But I get angrier every time because the time spent on hold is absurd. Sometimes, I have finished everything on my desk already while waiting for them. Their telephone system has got to be improved. So although they've sent out good subcontractors, I hate working with them. I will not be renewing with AHS. Run screaming from them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I went through the automated system and then talked to a person. Then, the contractor, Niebuhr Plumbing called in at 6 o'clock the next morning and when they arrived, they went right to work. The contractor screwed it up twice and ruined the two major holidays of the year. They have ruined Thanksgiving and I don’t have a working stove for Christmas. Furthermore, they don’t offer a reason why I am not taken care of. Then they’re trying to charge me another $75 for another visit to repair the same item that I had already paid for. I explained to the rep from American Home Shield that I had been out of a heater for almost a week and that I needed a water heater. Without hot water, it was chilly here and I had my granddaughter visiting. The last guy whom I spoke to at AHS set the appointment up and the plumber came out the next day. He brought the heater and put it in. He did what he had to do and I gave him the money. Then, the other part came up when turning on and using the bathroom sink. My daughter was washing up with the water heater and she said that the water was going everywhere again, so I called AHS back and they said that it was another invoice.
I had to pay another $75 and I said that I didn’t remember doing that in the past. I also said that I was not going to argue with them. I said that the gentleman that was here that put a heater in would have repaired the sink for us, but he didn’t have the parts and I asked if they would have charged me still with him doing the double job. The next couple of days, another plumber came out from the same company and he was also very nice.
We’ve had some terrible people come out. The same people that AHS was sending out here for the washing machine and the refrigerator kept half-fixing them. It got to the point where there was leaking from the icemaker. It was gone for a week, but it came back, and if my counter wasn’t there, I would have fallen and broken my back. I got tired of calling in to people and getting the same people. They were not repairing anything, so we took the refrigerator and broke it up into pieces and put it in the trash. The person that came out to work on the washing machine told me it was a plumbing problem and he sent AHS a note back and said that he was not gonna charge me the service fee.
I’ve been with American Home Shield even when I was renting and I bought the house in ’03. Back in the ‘90s, when we came to California and I bought into this, AHS was helpful because I had my business started, I had a daycare. That way, I wouldn’t have to be bothering the owner and I kept it on for myself. As each year goes on, the fees are going up, but the service is getting worse because they are not getting good contractors. I am getting fed up now and I will start looking into another insurance for inside stuff. It was depressing. I have around seven friends that have left American Home Shield, but I try to maintain along with it because I have myself and my home, and my daughter has two properties and we don’t wanna be going here and there. My daughter has gone through pure hell with some of the situations in her property back in Jersey.

It is now 12/20/2018 and I just got off the phone with AHS after waiting over an hour for someone to answer and was told they are "searching" for the part and would not be able to give me an update until the part was found, then it would take an additional 3-5 business days for the part to reach the technician. I will not have a refrigerator for Christmas. Why does it take so long to "search" for a part? I purchased this warranty to prevent this very scenario from occurring.
I requested a manager and was told due to the holidays there was no manager that could take my call. She sent a manager call back request however I was told with it being the holidays not sure when they would get around to calling me back. Really!!! I could do a simple Google search and find out in seconds whether the part is available. I am thinking they don't want to replace it. He thought it was covered, but he wasn't sure. That’s not my problem. I pay what the insurance company wants. If they tell me the cost is $100 a month, I pay it. If they tell me it’s $50 a month, I pay it. But when I submit a claim, I don’t wanna to get "The policy may not cover this. It may not cover that.” Once the contractor comes out and says they don’t know if the issue is covered or not, then what do I get the insurance for? The interactions with the contractor were good though and everything has been operating excellently since the repair.

Every time we call American Home Shield, there’s an exorbitant hold time. It’s ridiculous. We’ve spent well over an hour on hold trying to get through, and that has happened more than once. We had a plumbing situation, and AHS sent someone out who said it was fixed, but it wasn’t really fixed. So, AHS had to send somebody else out. And we were charged for both instances even though it was part of the first call. So, that was not very pleasant. Then in order to resolve or try to address the billing for being billed the second time, we had an over an hour wait over the phone. We had to put the phone on speaker, and go about our day until somebody picked it up, so it was not a great experience.
We usually submit our claims online and navigating through the website is usually fine. They send a contractor out quickly. We've had great interactions with the contractors and the services they performed were very good. It could’ve been a little more thorough with regard to the plumbing issue because it turned out there was not just one leak. There were multiple leaks. So, only one leak was addressed, but the guy was good and very professional.

I have four properties and I use American Home Shield for all of them. I've used them before for about four years, then I went to another company for a period of time. I found out that they offer less price but it wasn’t up to the standard, so I came back to AHS five months ago. My tenant called AHS for a claim as there was something wrong with the air handler in the AC unit at their house. Their service turned out great. People that came out there and fixed the issue. They did some additional work and didn’t charge us on our side. One thing I recommend to AHS is when a person is filing a claim, they need to be a little more detailed in what the work they performed and the breakdown of cost. When you see the receipt from both American Home Shield and the actual people that performed the work, it does not view a specific breakdown of the work that they did and the cost of that work. Nevertheless, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

My AC was blowing up whenever it feels like it and so I went online and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. That process was fairly easy. The repair company then came out and the part went out. They got the replacement part within a few days, came back out within the same week, and put it in quickly and easily. The unit has been working since then. American Home Shield is a good company and I would recommend them.

When there was a leak in my outside faucet, I submitted the claim online to AHS and it was relatively easy. The contractor came out after 24 hours. The guy had been here before and we had a rapport, so we went over what I thought was wrong and he said he can verify it one way or the other and then explained what he could and could not do under the contract. He fixed the problem, but my sink was 20 somewhat years old and I asked if I purchased the faucet could he have replaced it. He said that’s not part of the contract and it had to be broken. The faucet had to be leaking, not the spigot and there’s no preventative maintenance. I still have to call a plumber to come back eventually to do it.
I wish that if there were some other issues in the future, AHS could just replace everything. If I had already taken care of the stuff, I won’t have to worry about it. Other than that, AHS is good for you as you don’t know the emergency stuff that comes. It’s always good to have some kind of assurance even though you don’t use it. But again, we have caveats built around that. You have to be cognizant of the fact that there are certain things that would be covered and others that won’t be covered. My house is 23 years old, so there are some things that AHS doesn’t cover. It may cover the slight repair, but to fix the whole thing to what the cover is like, I could have just called the contractor by myself because I had the furnace in the attic repaired and AHS covered 10% of it. It’s something that I had to get done, so I just had it done.

We were smelling a weird smell and we determined that it was coming from the vents in our house. We submitted a claim to AHS online and it was really easy. AHS sent me something immediately that tells me that a contractor has been assigned for my claim and then the next morning, I was contacted. It was super quick. I love AHS's whole system. They were sending the emails and texts about the status the whole time, which was great.
The Cabot Mechanical guy came out and went upstairs. The exhaust duct that goes from the furnace to outside to the roof, were super loose. One of them actually was disconnected. I reconnected it shoddily and told the guy about the duct and that we were smelling something weird. The contractor said that my job of reconnecting looks good. He said that he replaced one of the electrical component that was out in one of the furnaces. The contractor was a quiet guy. He did his job, gave me a quick summary, and then headed out.
I've never had a negative experience with American Home Shield, however, with my wife’s best friend, their air conditioning was out in the heat of summer here in the south of Arkansas, and it took weeks for American Home Shield to do anything. It's something that’s kind of been in the back of my head. I've almost canceled my subscription with American Home Shield a couple of times and I'm looking at my finances and looking at the money each month to month. But the return on investment right now with the warranty is very positive. My pool pump also went out and AHS replaced it. If it wasn’t for American Home Shield, I would be out a lot more money.

I initiate claims for American Home Shield online and I can't remember having any difficulties with the website navigation, especially since I'm challenged when it comes to technology. In my first claim, the ice maker had a leak in it and a tech from Sears fixed that. Then the second appliance guy from Premier Appliance put a new pump on the dishwasher and a control panel. As far as the claim for my ceiling fan and my smoke detector, that has never been done. The last call I had from the electrician was on November 20th and I told him that I wasn't feeling well. I was really sick and I thought he was gonna call me back, but I never heard anything more from him. He also kinda indicated to me when I was telling him about the problems I had that he didn't think that American Home Shield would fix them anyway. While the electrician has never come to the house to see my last claim, both the appliance guys who were sent out were excellent.

Our heating system wasn’t pumping out any heat. The downstairs was fine but not the upstairs area so we had to try and heat it up super high. I submitted my initial claim for the heating system online. I received a text message and an email from American Home Shield about the time. This was followed by a phone call to verify the time. A contractor came out the next day, the 29th of November. The problem was he did not submit the note or information that was supposed to be sent to AHS.
A second guy came out to figure out what was going on and he was fine. He said there was a damp something and that we needed to replace the filters. We just got our problem resolved the other day. My husband was there during the repair and he told me what was wrong. We were given a little receipt and it was gonna be billed to AHS.
Having American Home Shield is very valuable because you have to make sure you have some type of way to get things covered and not have to pay full price for it. But the amount of time I spent waiting for the repair of my heating system was ridiculous and I want to make sure that some type of credit is gonna be on the account. Now, I’m waiting.

When we had a claim for a fire detector, the first people didn’t do their job but the second people that came out, JEM Electric, were outstanding. We had the most high-pitched squeal randomly throughout the course of the day causing my dog to tuck tail and cower constantly. Jose knew what was up, he did all the troubleshooting he needed to and put excellent notes about what he found in comparison to what the first techs didn’t even look for. He stayed for a little more than an hour. He found some differences between the connectors on the back between the different rooms and also how the connectors were not seated properly. He mentioned it on his notes. Since then, we haven’t had a recurrence of the initial problem that he came out to troubleshoot.
Our most recent claim was the refrigerator. The volume of water that is to be dispensed is a measured amount and as far as a glass putting underneath there and hitting the button and the water actually dispensing the proper amount is not happening. I did some troubleshooting, I called the tech and they told me that the problem was the valve that is operating the flow from the filter to the icemaker and the water dispenser. That was also why I’m only getting partial-sized ice cubes.
The first tech came out and just replaced the filter and the flow increased, but it didn’t fix the problem. My water still did not dispense to the proper quantity that it stated it should. I can put a measuring cup underneath it to one cup and it should be dispensing one cup but it consistently only dispenses three-quarters of the cup. The techs have initially been less than desirable, but American Home Shield has been great. They have been on top of it and made up for it 100%, and took care of me in an expeditious fashion. I thank them for that.

I live in Minnesota and last winter, it was below 0 and my furnace went out. I called American Home Shield and they couldn’t get somebody that is a normal vendor. They let me immediately go find a vendor then they reimbursed them quickly and in a timely manner. I was very pleased with the way they handled my claim. When I submit my claims, I like to talk to a person so I always wait to get ahold of a person. Then sometimes, I pay with a credit card ahead of time before the guy comes out. Sometimes, I wait until the guy comes out and they just hold my credit card, then I pay after the visit.
So far, AHS replaced my water heater and fixed my dishwasher, refrigerator, furnace, and air conditioning. I also get furnace check-ups at the beginning of every year. The contractors they have sent have always been very good. If I ask questions, they answer them and they have been friendly. Most of the people that come are local and they’ve always responded to me in a timely manner. Most of my claims have been handled in one appointment, too, though the one time the guy fixed the water heater, he went back the next day doing it. Terribly disappointed with the customer service! I have been trying to get service on my tankless hot water heater since Monday night. The original contractor they set me up with wasn’t available until Thursday. When I called back to see if there was someone else that could come out, they cancelled the original contractor and sent me a referral to someone that doesn’t even work on my type of hot water heater. When I got rescheduled with the original contractor the Thursday spot was full and now they can’t come until Saturday!!!
I tried calling back to see if we could get our own contractor to come out and get reimbursed, I waited 25 minutes to speak to someone and then was placed on hold for over 45 minutes when I asked to speak to a supervisor! The telephone representatives speak very poor English and are hard to understand. There is no reason anyone should have to wait over an hour to speak to a human being when there are almost 8 billion people on the planet. The final frustration is that I never did speak to a supervisor to get my question answered. I was told that someone will call me back. I’m not holding my breath. I just hope the rep didn’t cancel my Saturday appointment too. Disgusted and frustrated and unable to take a hot shower.

So after ANOTHER 30 minutes on hold, I speak with someone about a $75 service call fee that was taken from my bank account for a service that was NEVER done. Now I have to wait 10-14 business days for a refund. Every single time I try to contact them, it is an ordeal. Hold times are ridiculous and there is no other way to contact them - not email, live chat or carrier pigeon.
When I complain about the hold times - as I said previously, minimum of 25 minutes every single time - they said they are experiencing high call volumes. For 16 years! HA. It has definitely gotten worse over the last several years. They used to allow me to choose my service provider from their list, but this last time they said it was computer-generated and chose some random company. If I am satisfied and want to use a provider from a previous problem - I should be able to choose them. In summation, customer service has steadily declined over the last 16 years and I am strongly considering changing home warranty companies to someone that values me as a customer and values my time.

We checked both contractors with the BBB. Both contractors were rated F by the BBB. When we brought this to the attention of AHS, we were quickly informed that AHS is not responsible for damage or neglect by any contractor and any damage in result was not their liability. Wow! Today is December 19th 2018 and we just had a new unit installed with no assistance from AHS. I would recommend keeping money in a special account for home repairs and not waste your money on AHS. One of my first claims with American Home Shield was for a pipe that was leaking. It was a weird experience. They were sending in multiple people, one for the Sheetrock, one for the pipe, and I was getting told that the pipe wouldn’t be covered for certain reasons. It was just new to me to know that it would've been covered if it was a natural shifting. It seemed that there was a lot of loopholes. So that first experience wasn’t the best, but ever since then, everything else have been up and up. I like that American Home Shield allows you to pay after or before the service is done.
When I was having issues with my heater, I put in a claim with American Home Shield through their website. I noticed it’s always faster over the website. Submitting the claim over the phone is not as user-friendly. It brings them to another part, to another part, to another part, and it takes me to a part, to a part, to a part that I never seem to get directed to where I wanna go. It is much easier when I go through the website. After submitting the claim, I'll receive an email containing the company's name that is going to come.
The same air company has been coming to fix my air issues. It's been pretty much the same tech who comes out. He is very knowledgeable and informative. He went through all the tips. For my heater claim, the tech told me the problem was my thermostat. I have a smart thermostat, and he was able to bypass it and the heat came on. But he couldn’t fix it that day and he told me that I had to call my security company. And then my security company had to come to change the thermostat.

However, they said that even though the contract says they can repair or replace, there are two different paragraphs in the contract. They want to go with the one that says they can offer us cash, but not install. They want to give us $366 instead of just getting a new one and installing it. They want to give us a flat amount, which isn't enough to install it. I asked them to explain to me why they're not honoring the wording in the contract, and they just kept repeating that same thing over and over.
If American Home Shield is not gonna replace and install, then I'll wait. I'll just learn to live without a microwave. American Home Shield sent out the first electrician to take care of the electrical switch that went out in our panel box. We also had a heater fan in one of the bathroom that needed to be repaired. The electrician fixed that, but said that he thought the electrical problem was a power surge or overloading of the circuit, and so, he wasn't willing to fix it. He was friendly and polite enough, but was unwilling to spend the time to figure out what the problem was. So, we got a second opinion which I liked. AHS said that we'd have to pay the service fee if it was the same opinion as the first electrician. But if they would come up with a different opinion for the repair, then we wouldn't be charged.
A second electrician was sent out. He took his time to explain and figure out what was causing the breaker to switch off. He was great and figured it out in 20 minutes. And since he had a different opinion with the first guy, then we didn't have to pay anything for it. Everything's perfect and so far, we've been really happy with their service.

The AC didn’t work and it was really easy then to place a claim online with AHS but the vendor was a little bit harder to get in contact with. When I had trouble contacting the vendor, I called American Home Shield and that person was very, very helpful. She tried the HVAC vendor's phone numbers to try to get ahold of them and then when she couldn't, she offered to let me choose a different vendor. While she was trying to do that, the vendor reached to me coincidentally, but she was very helpful.
The first gentleman that came out there did not fix the issue. He came out there again and did not fix the issue. We didn’t have a lot of confidence at the time but we asked the vendor and told them we didn’t want that guy to come back out here again. They asked if I wanted a second opinion from another one of their workers and I said, "Yes, please." The second gentleman came out there and he thought it was a really simple fix. All of this took place over several weeks. But I thought American Home Shield was good. Any vendor that you work with, you might have some people that are great and some people that are not so great. We've had other previous good experiences, so I'm thinking that the HVAC hopefully was just a fluke. We had to do a claim on our dryer when we first got the home warranty and that was through a vendor that they used with Sears and that was a good experience.
Hi, Jennifer. We appreciate the positive feedback. I apologize for the delay you experienced in repair for your A/C but glad to know we took the time to listen to your concerns and send out a new technician.

Having our American Home Shield warranty is very good. We don’t have to spend time trying to check prices and find somebody who is available and willing to come to our house. It’s very easy. Recently, our heater that's on our lower level was making some noise upstairs, but it was not forcing any air out of the vent so we weren’t getting any heat. I went online to submit a claim with American Home Shield and it was very easy to navigate through their website. The contractor was supposed to come the next day, but they had a cancellation, so they came the same day, six hours after I called. The technician that came was very polite and friendly, and he explained everything very well. There have been no problems with our heater's functioning since the repair. Over the years that we’ve had AHS, we’ve had no problems so I would tell people to sign up with them.
Good morning Lorna,
I would like to thank you for sharing your experience regarding the heater repairs that were completed. Also, it was a pleasure to read about the contractor that serviced yo in a timely manner while working around your schedule. I hope you continue to enjoy AHS!

We had American Home Shield before and if I needed a water faucet replaced, I would get a really cheap water faucet from them. They replaced my garbage disposal several years ago and they put in a quarter-horse garbage disposal that wasn't the same quality as what I had. I was disgruntled about that so I stopped using them. I went back to them and I recently had my refrigerator fixed as it stopped cooling and there was a problem with the ice maker door. I made the claim for it online and it was pretty simple. It took a little longer than I would’ve liked to get a contractor out, but my son was there when he arrived and he just let him into the house and let him do his thing. Now everything is perfect, though it would’ve been nice to have an email that says, “This is what we found. This is what we’re gonna do.”

They then tried to get someone sooner but that was the shortest amount of time that I could get any service. The guy that I talked to was very professional though and since the service, everything has been operating fine. Having a warranty on my property is very valuable. I contacted American Home Shield to submit a claim for the air conditioning and they gave me a company by the name of Myers. I called in again and I complained about the young man because he blocked my way, in my hallway, in my own home. The first time he came out here, I asked him why he didn't it out. The thing was still freezing up. He wanted to be argumentative and wouldn't let me pass him. I was trying to be very polite about it. He ordered a bunch of stuff and he said that I needed more Freon. The unit was one year old and he said I needed all kinds of items underneath the house to upgrade. When I found that out, I told AHS to send me somebody else and send me the ones that were out here before, which was Affordable Heating and Air. When they came out, the Freon was not low and the unit only needed one part. They fixed it and I've had no issues whatsoever since
AHS didn't give me a choice to choose whoever I wanted. They automatically sent Myers out here and I had trouble with them. I would rather go online and pick who I want -- somebody that I dealt with before and somebody that I can trust that they work with, which is Affordable Heating and Air. They were the ones that put in the system initially.
The techs at Affordable Heating and Air are super nice people. They will listen and they will ask questions first about what's going on. It gives them a feel of what may be going on. They found out the problem. Affordable Heating and Air is number one. They are a 5-star company and they are very nice, polite people. I don't care for Myers now because I felt like they threatened me in my own home. I called American Home Shield and Myers, but they just blew it off like it was nothing to it. They also had the nerve or the audacity to give me a call about a month later.
They said that they got our parts in and that they were gonna come out and fix it. I was feeling irritated and I went off on those people and told them not to ever call me again. I've had people out here from other various companies to fix the refrigerator and the leaking pan, Anybody that I've ever had out here that worked through American Home Shield had been 5-star people, except Myers Heating and Air.
After Affordable Heating and Air came back out, the unit has been working great. I showed them the copy that the young man gave me and they said that my unit was not low, and the tech thought that Myers wanted to add another eight pounds. I knew something was wrong and I was right about getting a second opinion. When I first signed up with American Home Shield, I wasn't quite sure. I’m a hard guy to sell, but my sister had been with them for a few years and she said that they are good people and I oughta give them a try. When we bought the house, it came with the package deal and any time I've ever called in and talked to any representative, they have always been very kind and helpful and thoughtful, so I can't complain about American Home Shield. They are number one, 5-star in my book.

I recently purchased a condo/townhome. My husband is a stroke survivor and has lost speech and I have to work full time to make ends meet etc, etc, etc. So when I got the condo my realtor said that it came with a home warranty program through AHS - thought I really hit the lottery and was so thankful. The first week we moved in to the condo - the outlets were 'shorting" out as soon as we plugged a lamp with 2 bulbs!! My ordeal started with me trying to get a service call placed with AHS. I have attempted 5 times to get through in the last 3 weeks. Every time I called in between my 15 min break or 30 min lunch break - since I worked at a call center- I was on hold with music and message telling me- "my call is important etc, etc" but never got to any rep.
One time I even put the request to call me after the 40 or 50 min wait and when the callback came - quickly answered it but to my amazement it still went to a 20 min hold that I had to end the call to get back to my work. So today I called around 7.40 am while driving to work (at 8.00 am) and got to speak with Miriam who mentioned that I had to mention how many outlets etc, etc, and where all it was not working - I mentioned I had not checked everything but wanted someone to come and check everything - she said it did not work like that since if they did not put down what needed to be looked at they will not check that!!!
I then asked if I could get the name and number of a supervisor (since I was nearing my time to log in to my job). At first she said there was not one and then she said they could not give the direct number. Then when I mentioned, "You know I can still get this info if I go online and then I would also have to mention your details"- she gave me Rhonda ** as the name... So I am still hanging in the air to get some service. (;<).

Paid $75 service fee just to call someone else - I had a backed up main sewer line when I got up on Saturday December 8th in my new home. I remembered that I bought a home warranty with AHS so initiated a claim through their website. $75 and 30 minutes later a plumbing company called to set up an appointment. GREAT! For Tuesday (four days later). NOT GREAT. I called AHS to tell them that this is an emergency and that I needed to be able to use my toilet, showers, kitchen sink, etc. After being on hold for one hour AHS agreed to send someone else. They suggested SDL PLUMBING INC which I searched online and found that they have terrible reviews on Yelp. I asked if there is another company they can contact and was told that they're the only one they can send.
SDL PLUMBING INC sent out one plumber who inspected my house to find the clean out. I pointed out the clean out outside of my bathroom and he said the pipe is for something else. I was quoted $620 to get the pipes cleaned through the roof which was not covered by AHS home warranty. Since AHS told me that there is no other company who they could send out I contacted several plumbers myself. Roto-Rooter came out around 7pm on that day and was able to clean my pipes through the clean out I had pointed out to the plumber that AHS had sent. Their service cost me $350.
When I called AHS to get reimbursed they said that the plumber who fixed my issue was not authorized by AHS and therefore they could not pay me back. I am concerned that they do authorize the use of a plumber that obviously does not know his trade, yet cannot support their customers when they do find a qualified service provider, who not only was able to resolve the issue well under 4 days and correctly identify the clean out pipe. I am highly dissatisfied with the service received by AHS and will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau.
Good afternoon Noel,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience and the contractor that was unable to complete the repairs. Per the review, I am aware that you are seeking a reimbursement for the outside contractor repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

We had a leak coming into our bedroom from the master bath. The plumber not only left all the sheetrock dust, and pieces all over the carpet, he neither had a shop vac with him to clean up, nor did he soak up the water to test the patches, neither did he ask my husband for a vacuum, at least. I was not present when this happened, my husband was. My husband was in the Navy for a big part of his life, so he did not find it odd when the plumber basically told him to clean up himself, and put a fan on the area that was wet to see if it would dry. Which it did not, and we had to make call after call to get them to come finish the job correctly. And this was not the end of it, he left the pipes loose, and the shower head moved all over the place. When I called to get this fixed, it took a week's worth of calls to finally get in touch with someone, and not even then was it done.
The plumber blamed it on the previous owner, and said he would charge $225 for an "easy fix," basically telling us to fix it ourselves. But if that was the case, how come we'd never had a problem with the shower head until he came? Not only this, he also told my husband to call AHS back, and see if they had anyone to cover the holes he made on our wall. I called, and AHS told me the plumber himself should've called them to give them the dimensions of the holes, and they could not do anything without the plumber's information. So, there went another week. I thought that maybe this had been a lone contractor issue, but the sheetrock guys who came out did the same thing. I also had to pick up after them, and I have pictures that show the mess they left behind.
Every time I try calling, I am put on at least a 45 minute hold, sometimes even hung up on. When I finally got through to someone, they informed me the warranty only covered the patching up of holes, not repainting. So their contractors leave a mess in the house, don't finish their job properly, and make holes in my wall that they're only partially responsible for. Forget going 'above and beyond' for the customer, the bare minimum would've sufficed. At this point, we'd much rather bring in our own contractors, and pay full price than to deal with this incompetence. We have let our realtor know, because there is no way we will ever purchase this again for any future properties.
Good afternoon Giovanna,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have the plumbing repaired through AHS. I would be glad to speak with you and help get the repairs completed.

And now, the third time I called them back because the same drain that they were working on all of a sudden, developed a leak. They were out two weeks ago and he put some high pressure thing on here, and now, my pipes are leaking. I called them back and they said, "It's not a repeat. It's a new claim." I don't know if it's them or the company they get to come out. Something is really bad.
The contractor cut a hole in the wall and said he couldn’t fix it. He could see the pipe, but he didn’t do anything else. So I got a big hole in my wall and then he told me he might be able to get to me next week. He had to go check back in with American Shield. So I'm very disappointed. I got a guest over my house and I can't use my bathroom. The man said he had to move the toilet to go behind the wall. He said he can't move the toilet. It was his job to pick the toilet up. Stewart’s Appliances came out recently and they were very professional. They inspected the oven and decided it was one of the computer PCMs. There are two of them on this particular oven range and one of them was bad, so he went back to order the part. Then upon further determination by American Home Shield, they figured they would replace the whole oven. The only bad part of it was that the oven that we had was more expensive than the money they allotted us to purchase a new item up to the quality. We had to pitch in a little bit more money to get the same type of oven in our house.
It also took too long for American Home Shield to decide. It was a couple of weeks that we had our oven down before they decided. Plus I had to pay for the item that I wanted and then wait to get reimbursed. They should've provided a check to begin with. They told me they were gonna pay me up to $819 and some change, and the cost of the unit was originally $1,600. We ended up paying $1,100 with a discount I got through a military discount, but they wanted a proof of purchase prior to giving us the money. Nonetheless, they did what they said they would do. Though the contractor that they sent out replaced the part that needed to be replaced, I was not that pleased with them.
