I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our fridge that was leaking and our dryer that had something broken inside. The filing process was really easy and the repair company came out within a week, which was quick. The crew that came knew what they were doing and they were very professional. Their follow-up was great as well. They did the repairs within a day, except for the dryer since they had to order a part for it. But then they quickly returned for its repair. This was our first time using our American Home Shield warranty and I was really impressed. I was really happy with everything.
Hi, Chelsea. Your service went exactly how it is designed. Thank you for your positive feedback!

AHS sent High Priority Plumbers and they lied and told me that I had no pressure regulator. They also told me American Home Shield doesn't cover something that I don’t have. The box in front of the home is full of rain water and they don’t want to close the water supply. The first plumber didn't want to close that central thing or fix it. They also want me to pay $850 to put a regulator and I said no.
After the first plumber left, I called an engineer. My friend said every home has a pressure regulator. So I asked again for a second opinion from American Home Shield and then the second plumber came. Using an instrument, they looked at the pressure. The pressure was 45 and it was good. He fixed the problem and left. I'm done with my the contract with American Home Shield. I'm so disappointed with them and I’m not happy with the service. I will choose another company.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I had an issue with my garage door opener and I called American Home Shield. The contractor came out and fixed it, and it was a very good experience. The contractor was friendly and informative. He answered questions that I had, did a good job, and cleaned up. You wouldn’t have known he was there, other than my garage door is working once again. I’ve used AHS three times since I’ve become a customer of theirs, and, each time, it has been the same satisfactory response.

I have a clogged pipe that American Home Shield had already sent two companies out for. The first one couldn’t do anything and the second one couldn’t do anything. The diagnosis was that maybe there was some grout cemented into the pipe. But what was problematic was that the guy who did the work just left. He cut the vent pipe, left it open and also left my shower full of water and mud. It was certainly not an ideal thing. This thing hasn’t gotten fixed yet and now, I’m way worse off. I don’t necessarily feel like I should be paying $75 a pop for my house progressively getting worse.
I wanted some sort of compensation for this company coming into my house and flooding the bathroom and cutting a pipe and not fixing it. But then, AHS sent me a letter saying that it’s not their problem. They decided that it was a pre-existing condition and it was out of their jurisdiction. I’m not happy with the service that was provided and I should not be one that has to put the bill on and being tossed around. But I’m fine with AHS. Every time I booked the plumber, they’ve done everything in their power. I like their willingness to take the call and send people over here.

We've been with American Home Shield for four years now. Once, they replaced our water heater and we were really pleased with the experience. Then, most recently, we had a problem with the plug of our freezer. It was affecting a light along the front of our house. It was also affecting the freezer itself, which was critical. As soon as we realized that the freezer wasn't working, we were able to get it to work temporarily, but we needed to have an electrician come out. We submitted a claim with AHS and the repair company called us very quickly to set up a time and date. I asked them if there was any way that they could get here faster because the freezer was affected and we were really concerned about it and they were able to come quicker than what I had said. They then fixed the issue very quickly. They needed to get parts and they came back when they said they would. They did an excellent job.
Good morning Judy,
I would like to thank you for your patronage to American Home Shield over the past four years. I hope you continue to enjoy exceptional service and a good experience.

We had leaks underneath our kitchen sink and we submitted a claim with American Home Shield. My husband submits claims on the computer, but because of my time restraint, I have to call and the wait time for AHS can be up to an hour. Anyway, a guy from Emerald Home Services came and he had to remove all of the pipes, including the garbage disposal, to try to address the issue. That worked one time and it didn't work anymore. We had to go through the AHS resolutions department in order to have the guy come out again because he didn't want to come out and fix the issue. He thought that he would not get paid for the service. AHS decided he needed to come back out to fix the problem. He came back a second time and replaced the garbage disposal. Now, we have a new garbage disposal and it works fine.

The water pipe was leaking and so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. Navigating through the site was very easy. The tech who came out was also nice. It was cold and he had to go under the house and got all muddy. He got everything fixed. After the repair, the leak has stopped. I confirmed that with the water company and everything is good. My experience with American Home Shield has been excellent.

I have four accounts with American Home Shield and recently, I was a bit disappointed. Even with four accounts and being a good customer, I had a dishwasher that wasn’t covered. I actually had two people come out to see that and it cost me $100. On the whole, American Home Shield is good but it would be better if they offer a discount on multi-policy holders. Also, they should reduce the time to get through on the telephone when filing claims. A recent experience has taken me about an hour to get through on the phone so I've filed a couple of claims online. One was when I needed to get the locks on a rental house rekeyed and Ameri-Tech Locksmiths was sent out. And generally, the technicians sent by American Home Shield are good.

In the middle on the coldest days of winter in Virginia, my heat pump stopped working. I called AHS for service. Initially the company they connected me with said they could not help me for several day. So I called AHS back and said they needed to find another company as the first company didn't have anything on their schedule to service my heat pump. So then about 30 minutes later the same company called me back and said they would come service my heat pump on that day. The technician came out for 10 minutes and said it was the sequencer that was broken and left. Never said when he would come back or how he would fix the problem. Days went by with no response from this company. I finally called them and they said they had ordered a part and did not know when it would be in stock.
All this time I have NO HEAT! I went a week without heat and finally hired another company to come out and they fixed my heater in 1 visit and I had to pay for it myself. It was not the sequencer that was the problem, it was a contact switch. I requested to have my co pay refunded and AHS refused. Then I said I was cancelling my service with AHS and they hung up on me. So I tried to cancel the service online and there is no way to cancel it online. I had to dispute the charges with my CC for both the service call that did not fix the heater and any recurring charges to AHS!!! I'm shocked that this company ever gets good reviews and my experience has been a COMPLETE nightmare! Don't ever consider using them.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Dec. 5, 2018 made claim for heat pump. AHS sent out a contractor who said repair needed. Contractor couldn't locate part and neither could AHS. 12/14-AHS opened another claim and sent another contractor. That contractor couldn't locate the part so finally end of Dec. AHS said unit needed replacement. On Jan. 3rd a letter was supposed to be sent outlining what wasn't covered and what was. I have called several times between the original Dec. 5th call and today Jan. 22nd. I still have not received the letter nor has the contractor been out to replace the unit.
It has been almost 2 months we have been without heat and every time I call I am on hold and when someone answers all they can do is read their spiel and tell me that they are sorry or understand. I ask to speak to a manager or supervisor or someone that can resolve this and somehow we are disconnected and the whole cycle begins again. When I call the contractor I get a recording and when I leave a message I receive no callback. I don't know what else to do. I am filing complaints. Maybe something will get done. I am very disappointed with this company and their service and will be researching for another company.

Updated on 02/05/2019: My first call to AHS was on 1/20/19. Here I am without my refrigerator repaired. No call back at first to see if anything was done. I had to call them several times. Their process is very unorganized. Imagine when I called back to report my fridge was still not working properly after the service technician came out and replaced the master control board. I was on hold for over 10 minutes, the rep stated how short staffed they were, she was looking at my "2nd request" after first was cancelled, which I had to initiate and still did not see any of the information was explaining to her. I even called the repair company back and they called and stated "we hoped it was just the control board but the fan needs to probably be replaced also, so we have to order it and it will take a few days, I will call once we have the part to schedule installment."
First of all you hoped it was just this. Technician stated my fridge should be back to the correct temperature my morning which it was not. No followup call to check that it was working properly or anything. I placed Several calls back to Mariah **, social media specialist at AHS, who first responded to my Consumer Affairs post even left a work number. I was not getting any response back from her.
So today I receive a call on 2/4/19. What happened before then. Are you so concerned about your image. Several referrals I received from our church friends who happen to have AHS and have had great service, but now I get the shoddy work and service. I guess a refrigerator not getting really cold is not very important. What if a person has food or items which I did. Thinking I would get a faster response, but I didn't. So now tell me, once they come out again and the "fan" does not work, how much longer will I have to be without a working refrigerator. It seems as if the service company did not actually know the problem. I should not have to wait this long. My refrigerator should have been replaced at this point. Two weeks to correct/service is ridiculous. All my friends gave rave reviews, and now this. How can you correct or make changes so something like this does not happen again. Please help me to understand and move forward, because I am not overjoyed at my first attempt to use this service as a home buyer.
Original Review: I placed a service request on 1/20/2019 and was assigned to Reliable Property Solutions, as it was more than just an icemaker repair. When I finally was able to reach Joni at RPS, she said that they were unable to do the service and would contact American Home Shield and let them know and they would reassign to another vendor. Since I had not received an email or call, I called AHS today and learned that the service request had been cancelled and would have to resubmit another one.
Needless to say I am very unhappy about this process. RPS should have been able to let them know that what I needed they could not do and have my request for service rescheduled. Or if information was shared I could have received a call from AHS to have this redone. This is very poor customer service and I have now been assigned another vendor who cannot come out for service until Thursday evening 1/24/19. AHS's process needs to be evaluated as to how to handle such an issue.
Good morning Ann,
I understand your concerns regarding the appointment delay to have the ice maker repaired. I would be glad to look into the issues that occurred and assist with a resolution.

Updated on 01/30/2019: Soon after I posted the negative review on ConsumerAffairs site, I was contacted by American Home Shield social media support team. The representative advised that the issue will be rectified within 48 hours. Since I did not hear back, I contacted Customer Service, to be told that I will receive an email advising decision to replace the washer. A week later from my first review, the situation is yet to be resolved. In the meantime, monthly premiums and service fees are deducted on time. Have never come across an incompetent unreliable organization such as American Home Shield.
Original review: It has been over a month since I initiated the service request and the washer is still not fixed. The technician ordered parts and returned to fix the washer but was unsuccessful. By this time over 3 weeks have gone by. The technician said I would hear back from American Home Shield within 48 hours but to no avail. Called customer service and was told technician report has not been received. Over a month now, I am still without a washer. In the meantime I was charged the monthly fee as well as technician fee.

On January 10th, I submitted a claim for my washer that was getting an error code every time it was used. It was not draining. The repair person could not look at until January 15th. It was determined that the drain pump went out and would need to be replaced. I checked the status on AHS website and it said the claim/job was complete. The washer was never fixed. I called AHS on January 22nd and they said it was complete and I informed them the only thing the repair person did was diagnose the issue.
AHS informed me they never received a report on the diagnosis. It has now been 12 days since we have been without a washer. I understand that we could take our clothes to the laundromat, but shouldn't the repair be more timely? I asked if this was the standard time frame for repairs for other appliances such as a refrigerator? I was told it was. I couldn't imagine being without a refrigerator this long. I think I would be better off putting the cost of the monthly fee for AHS into a savings account and use that instead of their service. This is unacceptable.
Good morning Amy,
I understand your concerns regarding the washer machine service request that was not completed. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

We have a service request in progress so am reluctant to respond but feel I have to echo several of the poor ratings given this outfit. We are still awaiting a decision on replacing an oven unit that cannot be repaired unless it is taken from us for up to 5 weeks. This is service we pay for? Apparently the contact channels are designed to discourage one from getting final resolution if it is something other than a minor fix. So far we are not satisfied and hope you can follow up with the right and fair decisions.

Do not ever use American Home Shield. I have had a warranty with them for years, first time I had to use it my heat went out in the middle of the winter. Filed the claim, it was 3 days before they could get anyone out there. I called them and asked if I could use a local company that I knew would get someone out there the same day, they said no, because of the price. So they use the cheapest people they can find to do the work, those people use refurbished or used parts. So finally the technician comes out, is there for 5 minutes and says it's an electrical problem, I have to refer it out to an electrician. He said he was letting American Home Shield know. Never heard back from American Home Shield. Called them and after sitting on hold for 25 minutes the lady comes on and says she will have an electrician out the next day. No one ever called or showed up.
We finally called again and got the phone number to the electrician. The number they gave me to call was the home phone number of a much older lady. She said her son does the electrical work and we would have to call him, not her house. He doesn't answer, voicemail is full, never called back. My wife called American Home Shield and they finally agreed after going round and round with them for an hour to let us bring in someone local that was licensed, but they that had to call and set it up through American Home Shield and we had to pay it and get reimbursed. So I had them do that.
They come out the next morning and it is not just electrical. The motor is out in the unit. Of course the cut rate guy that came out the first time didn't even notice that. They call American Home Shield again before doing the work because American Home Shield has to approve the repair. American Home Shield then says that they did not authorize to bring in another HVAC repair company, just a licensed electrician. So now, even though the heating unit itself has an issue, they will only authorize the electrical work. They are sneaky and greedy. They will do anything they can to get out of paying your claim. I would never under any circumstances use American Home Shield again. It is an absolute waste of money. Save your $50 a month and pay for the repairs yourself, or get a good warranty company that actually cares about its clients.
Good morning Joel,
I understand tour concerns regarding your most recent experience to have the air conditioner repaired due to the miscommunication with AHS. I would be gad to speak with you and get the repairs completed.

We had a pipe burst and I called AHS because our warranty covered plumbing. When I called I was very specific that we had a burst pipe. After listening to terrible music for 30 minutes the rep who took my call submitted an expedited service request since, after all, we had no water. We received a service call from United Air Temp-- not a stellar operation-- fairly quickly. After tearing out the ceiling the technician informed us that our warranty does not cover burst pipes so we had to pay him $475. As it turns out, AHS only covers "leaky" pipes-- the kind of thing that almost any do-it-yourself guy can fix in less than an hour with $5 worth of parts from Home Depot. AHS collects your money. That is it. Save your annual premium and put it toward your next home repair-- that you can schedule yourself with a good company!
Good morning John,
Your frustrations are understood regarding the leaking pipe that was repaired. I would be glad to speak with you regarding the non covered cost paid to complete the repairs.
Original Review: Jan. 22, 2019
Our heater went out recently on our home that we just purchased back in December. We requested someone from AHS to come inspect the problem. The contractor they sent refused to do an adequate inspection. They looked at the circuit board and said that they wouldn't look any further until we paid to have that replaced. Then they tried to convince us that they were the only contractor with AHS and that we need to replace our entire system. I was not comfortable with this option so I sought out a second opinion. Since it is quite hard to speak to a person from AHS since it only would let me go through the service robot, we found someone else ourselves.
The company we went with did a thorough investigation and determined that we didn't need a new system, just a few parts and the rest of the system had at least 5 years of life left. I finally got to speak with someone from the AHS authorization department and explained what happened. In that conversation, they made it clear that they had no interest in resolving our warranty issues. The agent I spoke to couldn't have cared less that I wasn't satisfied in how AHS handled this issue. Moral of the story, when looking for a home warranty company don't settle for this one since their main interest is dodging satisfying repair claims. And don't let contractors fool you, apparently there is no regulation on contractors AHS uses.
Good morning Rebecca,
I understand your concerns regarding the heating repairs that need to be completed. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I would recommend American Home Shield. It’s good to have for anybody who owns a home, especially if they have older equipment inside it. I submit my claims with AHS online through my account and it’s easy navigating through the website. Normally, after I submit a claim, they assign a contractor to our place, and they contact me within 24 hours. And then, they make an appointment. The contractors text, call, or email me. I made a claim when there was a blockage, and we had a problem with the water supply in the basement. The pipes were making noise. C Mayes Plumbing & Heating was sent and while the technician was running a little late, he let me know that he would be there. I was fine with that. They serviced the sink and the water supply issue.

When I called in a claim over the phone for a heating unit, the lady from AHS I talked to at their office was nice. She was concerned about our problem because it was getting cold. They got right on to it. The first time the repairman came out he got the heat going but by the time he got down the street, it went out again. So I called them at their office and the lady called the contractor and they sent the guy back. He said it was the control module that was kicking off. He showed us how to get it started if it kicks off again so it won't be cold. We did that a few times and then it stopped working. He came out again, and he looked at it. He told us it might be the control valve so they ordered a control valve and he came out and put it on. I had no more problems after that.
I'm glad AHS is there because it's hard to get a repairman out to do anything without somebody to talk to that know who to contact. I don't know anybody around here. My hot water heater went out, one Sunday morning, getting ready to go to church and the water had gone in the carport. So we got the hot water heater cut off. I called AHS and the guy came out and he looked at it. It took a few days. But you just can't make a phone call and then expect for 30 minutes later to get fixed. He said we need another hot water heater. I said okay and he answered he would take care of it. He came back the next day with a hot water heater, put it in and that was it.
Hello, Melvin. Thank you for letting us know about your service experience. It is great to know that we had someone in the area to resolve that hot water heater issue promptly.

I usually call American Home Shield because I only have a tablet and it is not too cooperative with the online site. I, however, would prefer a mobile version because calling is painful. Sometimes I cannot understand the people who have really thick accents. Also, sometimes, it just takes forever to get through, and I had some trouble three times ago with miscommunication. But, it always works out. It would just be so much easier if I could just do it online. I had two recent claims. The first one was a ceiling fan, and they decided I need a new one. So they sent one in, and I was pleased. The second one was a fan and a fixture. We waited for parts, but that was fine. So, everything was great. The technicians that they send out have been great. The day before Thanksgiving, my refrigerator stopped working due to a frozen ice maker. I called American Home Shield, but I knew no one was gonna be out here over the holidays. Glenn's then came over and they had to order a retro kit. After installing it, however, the ice maker kept freezing. Glenn's had to come back a few times, and unfortunately, they probably have to come back again in the future. Apparently, it's a Frigidaire issue.
With my air conditioning ducts, however, it's ridiculous that American Home Shield would not cover it. The system is an older one and the ducts themselves have to be wrapped in insulation in order for them not to drip to my ceiling. The AHS contractor came out. They filed the claim, but AHS said that they would not cover the insulation. They would if it was the actual duct, a cylindrical metal, but one thing cannot exist without the other. It has to be wrapped in insulation, otherwise, it causes condensation with the change between the cold air in the tube and the hot air in the attic. And that condensation leaks into my ceiling. I am satisfied with my experience with AHS for the most part but the issue with my air conditioning ducts didn't make any sense to me. It was totally disappointing.

One of our heat pumps in our house was not working right. We weren't getting heat out of it. I submitted a claim online to AHS and their site is excellent. I love it. The rep immediately texted me and said that the call had gone to them and that they would like to schedule an appointment, so I called the technicians immediately. And then they texted me a message, and they were due to come out on the day that we were getting a whole bunch of rain. So I called the man and told them if we could reschedule it 'cause I didn’t think it was fair for his technician to come out in all that rain, and he appreciated that. The technicians ended up coming out three days later and he was very good. We needed a new compressor, and he's ordered one. And they’ll finish up the service call when that all comes in. American Home Shield is worth every dime that I have to pay for in case I have a problem in the home. They're wonderful and excellent.

My dryer broke on a Monday and I called AHS the next day. They assigned a repair company who had a 1 star review on Google. I tried to get in touch with the repair company and got a VOICEMAIL FULL error. I called this company 17 times over a 6 day period. They sent someone out within 2 days, but said they needed a part; a part which would take another 7 working days. I called several local repair companies and all said they have that part IN STOCK. These companies then informed me that the repair company who AHS sent was known as a terrible company, and had many issues before. AHS tried to reach the repair company they hired and were unable to reach them for a whole week.
I recorded every single phone call with AHS reps (it is legal in my state) and was told by even the supervisors that they could not reach the company. I ended up, 6 days later, hiring another company who informed me they also do work for AHS. This company charged me a fair price of $450. AHS said they would give me $200 for the repair. They said this is what the repair cost, with the part they were sending, would have cost. So, in the end, AHS charged me $100 for the service call, and are offer me $200 total for a dryer repair. Online the part is $260 and multiple companies have told me there is no way to have fixed my dryer for $200 including the part. I am still trying to get AHS to refund my repair costs.

We had to hire a company ourselves because we could not wait another 48 hours for a second opinion while we have no plumbing. The 5 star company we hired immediately found the sewer wash out and resolved the issue the same day.
A second request for service was for a slab leak. A contractor was sent out and advised that they needed to send someone else out to locate the leak. That was the last we heard from them. We tried multiple times to contact the contractor but our calls were not returned. AHS then assigned us to a different contractor for a 2nd opinion without calling us or letting us know why. We waited all weekend, while water was building up in our house as we still need running water during the day and cannot shut off water to the house. Called AHS first thing Monday morning and was told that it is within guidelines for the contractor to have up to 48 hours to contact us and weekends don’t count as business hours. They tried to contact the contractor but could not reach them.
We asked if we can get a different contractor because the leak was damaging our walls and carpet. AHS response was we have to give the contractor time to respond and cannot reassign because this is for a second opinion and by the way damages from the water while we wait is not covered. We did not ask for a second opinion and there was no communication on why one was requested and assigned to a different contractor. So it looks like my choices are to let the water damage continue to spread in my home and wait up to 48 hours for their contractor to call me to schedule someone for a second opinion or hire someone myself so I don’t have to pay more money to repair additional repairs on the water damage.
Good morning Rick,

I don’t ever write reviews, but my experience with this company was sooo bad I have to warn others. Please go with another company, especially if you live in a rural area. They left my tenant without AC for 3 days in the middle of Arizona summer who had a baby. This was while they searched for one of their vendors who would make the drive. After three days, they finally authorized an outside vendor. I had to pay out of pocket for the repairs ($650) which I was skeptical about, but was told I would be reimbursed. Well, this never happened.
Three months after submitting the paperwork, I called for the status of my refund. I was then told that the proper procedures weren't followed for an outside authorization. They told me that service provider never called them to verify the repair and cost (which did happen as my tenant called them and handed his phone to the technician to speak with AHS).
So bottom line, I’m out 650 for the repairs and 500 for a home warranty that wasn’t used. What’s the point of a warranty if they don’t cover things? Also, maybe even more frustrating, every time you call this place for claims expect to be on hold for 20-30 minutes. I made approximately 6 calls to them during this event and the average call duration was 40 minutes. If you looking to purchase a policy, you can speak to someone almost immediately. As I said, I almost never write a review but the service I was provided from this company was the worst I’ve experienced. I hope I can save one homeowner the headaches I dealt with.
Hello, Ryan. I apologize that your tenants were without A/C for that amount of time and you were never reimbursed for the outside work that was performed. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to assist you further.

It didn't take long at all for him to figure out what the issue was. It was hair in a clogged drain and it took him minutes to fix it. He even gave us ways to prevent hair from clogging the drain again. We are satisfied with our experience with American Home Shield. I would recommend them to new home buyers.

American Home Shield is a good company. Once I went online and filed a claim with them for my heating and air unit. They sent Arizona TradeMasters and they were very good. A guy came to run some tests and then told me that the unit's compressor was gone. That had to be ordered. It took at least a week, which was a while, and the contractor kept blaming it on AHS. After the part came in, the contractor had to come back two other times. The first two guys who came here wired the replacement compressor wrong, so they had to do it again and it was still wrong. I know enough about heating and air and this could be dangerous. The third guy - the one who originally came out and diagnosed the problem - came out, fixed it and now the unit is working well. I've had warranties for the last three or four homes and AHS was the oldest one I bought and everything is good.

I made a call to AHS and I was answered by the automated message thing which was helpful. The contractor who did the work was very nice and fast. He told me that the wire was completely messed up and then, there was something else internally that was also messed up. But he fixed it and it only cost us $75 deductible.

I usually file a claim to American Home Shield through the website and navigating it was simple and easy. It was very intuitive. I sent in a request and they sent someone out quickly. The first rep that I talked to when I was setting the service was good and the technicians always came in. They were straightforward, professional and answered any question that I have. They get the services done the first time they come out and if they need a new part, they keep me updated if the parts are coming in. Nothing that has been worked on has taken long or has broken since, so I'm happy with it. People should check out AHS.

American Home Shield is good. I’ve kept my membership up for over 10 years now and they are worth it. I've gotten a new air conditioning pump outside. I've also gotten a new clothes washer, and I’ve had my microwave repaired. Submitting claims with them over the phone is pretty simple. Sometimes, they replace the appliance, but if it’s fixable, they fix it. When the tumbler of my clothes dryer wasn’t working, I called AHS and they sent somebody out right away. The guy who came was a nice young man and very cool. He told me that it was better he fixed the dryer because the old ones are so simple that they never break down but the new ones do. I have an old dryer. It’s 37 years old and doesn't have a computer. The fan belt broke. He fixed it, straightened it all up, and cleaned the inside out for me. It has been working great.
We really appreciate you being apart of the AHS family. I am happy that we have been able to provide satisfactory service. Have an amazing week.

Whenever I reach out to American Home Shield, their reps are pretty quick. They get the information they need, and usually within a few days, I’d get somebody out. I was having issues with my garage door which would sporadically stop working. Sometimes, I would click the remote and it would start to go, but then it would stop or it wouldn’t open or close all the way. It kept doing that for about two weeks. All of a sudden, one day when I went to open the garage, the sprocket that drives the chain broke off and couldn’t do anything after that.
I called American Home Shield and had someone come out and look at that. I got the owner of Smokey’s to come down, and that was December 31st. When everybody else was home resting and enjoying their vacation, he came out and helped with my problem. I was really impressed and grateful for that. He was very thorough and he went through explaining the whole process. He told me that what happened to the sprocket was a very common thing that would happen with older garage motors where the sprocket would break off because over time, they would wear out. He showed me the part and noted that was pretty common. He took a brand new one out of his truck and opened it right in front of me, and I looked at it. It was really good service. I’ve had on and off home warranties in other homes, and I really like American Home Shield.

Our hot water heater broke December 30th. American Home Shield sent a plumber out to assess Jan 4th who said we needed a replacement. AHS wanted a second opinion, so they scheduled another plumber to come out a week later, on Jan 10th. This plumber said we were missing pieces and AHS said we'd have to pay $1,300 out of pocket because it wasn't covered under our plan. The missing piece was the windscreen (basically made of foil and not essential to the functionality of the water heater).
We replaced the missing part and AHS had a THIRD plumber come out a days later (Jan 15) who said it needed to be replaced but there were necessary "upgrades" that would cost $550 to replace. These "upgrades" cost less than $50 in materials (flex tubes and vent). Meanwhile, we have no hot water for most of January and resorted to taking cold showers. AHS is a scam and hires contractors that are incompetent and lazy. I wish a watchdog could shut them down so that people aren't scammed out of money and time.

Our furnace was not working and just set off on its own. I ended up calling American Home Shield for service and the rep was pretty knowledgeable. It took them two days to schedule someone to come out. The tech who came out was pretty knowledgeable as well. We had to order a part and it took 10 days to get it. Then they had to come back out to install it. Though we were without heat for about a week, the furnace is performing well now.
Another time, I had a service call for the dishwasher. I made a call to AHS to have someone come out. I had to take off from work for the technician to come to my home to look at the dishwasher. When he came out, I told him everything that was wrong with the dishwasher. He told me we needed to use a different pod brand and a different rinse aid brand, but that had nothing to do with the issue. Using a different brand was not gonna fix the issue. He wanted me to run it for another 30 days then call back if the problem still existed. I used the dishwasher for another day with the issue. I had to run the dish cycle for at least three hours and wastewater and electricity, but my issue was not fixed. I definitely was not happy about the service or the technician. Plus, I could not understand him because of the huge language barrier.
I could not wait 30 days and ended up having to call AHS a week after. I told them that the problem was still going on and to have a senior technician come out. Lo and behold, they sent the same technician. I had to take another day off of work. While he was driving to me, asked me what was wrong with my dishwasher. I told him that it was the same thing that was wrong with it last week. He came to my house for 10 minutes and proceeded to order the part. He should have ordered the parts when he came out the first time. It's going to take 7 to 10 days for the parts to come in and he gave me February 16th as the date when he can come in and install the part. That’s gonna be another day with me having to stay home with the dishwasher. Still, I've had a pretty good experience with AHS thus far.

My bathroom tank overflowed. I called American Home Shield and told them that it was an emergency. It was during the holidays and I had company at my house. But Home Choice, the company that AHS got for me, couldn’t get here at that time, so I had to have somebody else come in. But AHS still charged me that $100, and they always do that. They did it before, and they gave me the $100 back.
When that person came in and solved the problem, they should've taken out the equipment in the tank and put in new parts. Then, later on, there was a flood that destroyed my house, from upstairs to downstairs. I had to have Roto-Rooter come out and they tore out all my walls, my floors, and my cabinets. My house was in such disarray because they were looking for mold and mildew. My house has been like this ever since December the 31st and I hadn't gotten the $100 back for this time in December. AHS hasn't put it back in my account.
If AHS has a subcontractor come out and do service for a person, and they take out the $100, I don’t give the $100 to the people that come out. They should know whether that company did service or not. It should be some transaction between AHS and the subcontractor that they want to come out and do the business. My husband and I have been with AHS for quite a while, and I've gotten some good results and some bad results. Some of the people that they get are good. I had some pros and cons, but overall, I'm okay with them.

I always submit my claims with American Home Shield over the phone because I wanna choose my contractor or make sure they give me the person that I used before, which can't be done online. If I find a vendor I like, I keep using them. Submitting claims over the phone has improved over the years. It used to be a horrible wait time, but most of the time now, they answer quickly, although it depends on the time of the day. My most recent claim with them was my stove and PJ Appliance was sent out. They did a fix, although I thought that I was getting another stove. He was able to fix the door and fix the usual ignition issue I have. My stove has been working fine since he was out.
American Home Shield has been great for the most part. We've had a few glitches here and there, but they were resolved, so I'm satisfied with them. They’ve been great to help with my issues in my home. I am just hoping that they have a larger pool of plumbers. I usually have my own plumber because I didn’t like the plumbers that were available to me in DC. I am reluctant sometimes to use certain industries for my work because of some past experiences. I generally wouldn't go to AHS even though I have plumbing.
I tweaked my plan because it was getting too expensive to maintain, but they were great in letting me know that there were some other options, so I scaled it down to appliances only, which doesn’t include plumbing. Long ago, I wasn’t happy with the plumbers and those were the only ones that were available. Their people are available according to where you are and you have to select with that pool. I hope they have different plumbers even though I don’t have plumbing anymore. Otherwise, AHS has been outstanding and very accommodating.

He looked at it and said that it was not working and we had to replace it. They had to order it, and they did all the paperwork. I didn't have to do anything, which was very, very nice.
The hardest thing was it was an older heater, so getting one to replace it took three weeks and that wasn't so great. We had to order something and wait for it. It was cold, but I got a wood burning stove which was my secondary heat source, and everything else was electric. The only drawback was if I don't have that secondary heat source in that being winter time. We'd have to go to a hotel for three weeks and that would have been out of pocket. If they could have gotten the heater locally or replaced it with something different, it would be good. But as soon as the order got in, the technician was up here and put it in. It went very smoothly. Everything has been working wonderfully since then. Also everybody at AHS was great. They kept me up-to-date and let me know what was going on. When I called your office, and explained this to them they told me it would be another service call to send out a different contractor. This is not right in my opinion, as you selected this fraudulent contractor in the first place. This repair requires only the TWO valves and a couple of ¾" wrenches to repair. I have had AHS for several years on and off usually it's ok. My wall furnace heater broke so I made an appt. It was fixed for a couple of hours and would break and this happened 2 more appointments later. Finally, they say they will "replace" the unit. The unit is in a sunroom and the entire room walls are windows. The current unit is 14 x 17. The unit they are demanding I take is 16" wide and 63" high. so in order to install the replacement I would have to cut through a support beam and cut 2 different windows in half to fit the unit in. See picture.
I spoke to a supervisor explaining the problem and I told her, this is impossible to install, it compromises the integrity of the building. Her response, well this is our offer and that's that. The unit they are telling me to install doesn't even meet local building code, which is outlined in the account agreement, however they don't care. I even offered a deal where if they offered me cash for a like unit I would take it and bear removal and installation responsibility for a new unit. They wouldn't take it. I am trying to save these guys money but they still refuse.
If I don't have resolution soon (it's winter in Chicago so not having heat is fairly uncomfortable) I am filling a complaint with the IL attorney general's office and AHS can deal directly with their lawyers. Given that AHS is in breach of contract by not supplying me with a "like" unit and demanding I take a unit that doesn't pass building code, I think the Atty General's office is going to come down hard on them for not resolving this sooner.

It happened again the following week so another week to get a return visit. He returned and found the problem but another week to order a part. FRAUD ALERT! American Home Shield and its network of service companies are conducting an organized fraud! My furnace made a sound suddenly Friday night and stopped blowing hot air! I called the American Home Shield as my home warranty and submit a service request the next day. They assigned me Metropolitan Heating and Air Conditioning to come and check. Once they been assigned I looked them up on Google and saw all the bad reviews! I got worried and I decided to call AHS first thing on Monday to ask for another company. But to my surprise, Metropolitan called the same day and said they had an opening and could come over to take a look at the furnace in an hour! I thought wow, that was fast and sounds great because it was really cold and I didn't want to spend the weekend with no heater! So I agreed and I thought maybe those couple of 5 stars are truer!
He came in, acted very friendly and nice, opened the closet door to furnace, took a picture, closed the door and wrote on a paper that the unit needs to be replaced and gave me a copy and said he will submit it to the warranty company and it might take 7-10 days for replacing the unit, and he left. The whole thing was under 5 minutes! He DID NOT EVEN TRY to turn on the unit and see if it was working or not or what was the problem! I got really worried but then I fooled myself maybe he is very experienced! And sure enough, as everybody else mentioned on those bad reviews, I got a call from AHS saying your claim was rejected because the technician believes the problem was pre-existing!! WHAT? I asked, "based on what evidence? Do you mean that we've been in freezing cold weather with no heater for months? NONSENSE!"
She had no answer and simply said that, “This is what the technician reported and we will go with that!” She then said, “We can send another company for a second opinion but if they say the same thing there is another $100 service fee.” I asked her who would be the other company because I want to Google them before having them come in. She gave me another name and when I searched, guess what! Same reviews! I asked for another company, the same thing! She gave me 5 different names and they all had the same bad reviews about people paid the service fee for nothing! That is where I realized it's an organized fraud! They are just looking for the $100 service fee! $100 for 5 minutes doing basically NOTHING! That is good money!
After that, I called Metropolitan to simply ask based on what he concluded that it was pre-existing? And sure enough, he did not answer and never returned my calls! I told the story to a friend of mine. He referred me to another technician that he knew. The guy came in and in 20 minutes fixed the furnace by replacing some wires for $180! My furnace is working even better than before now! As the other reviewer suggested, I'm going to file with the state for this fraud as well! And I recommend everyone to do the same so we can stop these guys from rubbing people!

Their website is okay, but we can’t really put in details of what the claim is, and we have to depend on discussions whenever they call to follow up and schedule the appointments. And if there’s more than one thing like when we had two appliance issues, it's not easy to get data via the website. When we had an issue with the light on the vent hood and there was a warming sensor that was not functioning on my cooktop, my spouse filed our claim and N & K Appliance Service came out. They were courteous, clean, and respectful. The warming sensor works now. Before the repair, the light in the vent hood was irritating and to be able to see now is great. We had a heating problem and American Home Shield sent Anthem Mechanical out. It wasn’t working at all. It needed something about the heater. And they came and replaced it. Submitting the claim was very easy. The only problem I have is until I get them on the phone. I call them and I get at least a half-hour wait before somebody gets on the phone. Once I get that far, they’re great because then, I tell them the problem, they send somebody out, and they take care of it.
They were very helpful. They asked me my problems, I told them what was wrong, they sent out this guy from Mechanical, he came and went to check everything with our heater and air conditioner up in the attic. He put on the thermostat and it worked, but no heat came out. So, he found a part that he needed, they had to order it and it took about a week or so until they got it, and they came back and fixed it.
I've been with AHS for several years and I have multiple policies. There was one time that I had a bad contractor. We had the condensation pipes clogged up and we had a leak and it spilled out. They sent out two guys, and all they spoke was Polish. And all they knew were, “No water,” “Air conditioner good.” And finally, they sent out a guy who spoke English, and he found the leak and he fixed it. But until that point, it was misery.

The dishwasher was not working and I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I talked to them about it before and I didn't know if they put it in or what. It took three weeks to get the part and then two weeks before for the contractor first came out. When the Premier Appliance Services came, the guy saw the part that was in the drawer, it had to do with the electrical-- a fuse inside the door was burned out so he put another one in. About a week later, the thing went out again. The contractor came out the second time. He told me that we'd go outside. I already checked the outside before if the switch was off as it might be loosed and there was nothing wrong with that.
On the side, there was nothing floating that was in the dishwasher before. But he pulled off this flat thing and said that that was the reason, the steam must've gotten it inside there and cut it off. That thing was not in there before. There was no hole in there to where it would go up inside the door that was why I didn't understand how could he say that was it. I don't trust him for one damn thing. I think he lied. He took a picture of that being in there and he didn't tell me what he wrote. He said that was the cause. It's been over a week now and nobody contacted me on what's going on with it. I've been washing my dishes by hand for three months now. I'm gonna call AHS back up again. According to what their thing said, they make it clear that if the unit doesn't get fixed, like fixing it the first time and if something happens again, they'll replace it. They make a big deal about it but that's a bunch of bull. They don't replace anything. Are they kidding me?
Good morning Glenn,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service you have experienced to have the dishwasher repairs completed. Per the diagnosis, I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Our recent experience with AHS was great. I had a fan go out on a compressor and submitting the claim was super easy. I did it online, paid my fee and went from there. The contractors were pretty much set to come out right away. We were leaving to go out of town, so I delayed them. I set it up after we were back on the 2nd, and it worked fine. The guy showed up. He was on time, polite and courteous. Everything was good. I have zero complaints. My contact at American Home Shield, the lady that sold me the policy, followed up. I’ve had a lot of rentals and through her persistence, the company signed up four more properties. She’s a good saleswoman and she really talked it up and got me to buy four more. I’m very happy.

I had a claim for a leaky toilet and American Home Shield sent out Dockside Plumbing. Their technician got the job done and he did it well. He came twice for two different reasons and got both of them done quickly and very professional. The only thing I don’t like about AHS is that they have changed the payment. I do the monthly payments to them, so I have it yearly, but they've now changed it. Instead of paying $75 to the contractor, I now pay them directly. They have it where either the contractor could take the money out right then or they take it out right after the service. But they take it immediately out of my account, which is fine because the money is there. But, in a way, it rubbed me the wrong way, only because it took any control of payment away from me. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with my experience with this company.
Good morning Bridget,

My hot water heater did not stop working but the hot water would leak out through the overflow every time it would heat the water. So, not only was I wasting gallons and gallons of water but it also took forever to finally replace it. I had to call the repair company to find out when they were gonna do it. AHS should keep better contact with the customers and should have followed up. I shouldn’t have had to call the repair company. AHS was happy to replace it but they wanted to make sure that I knew that they were gonna have to make all kinds of modifications in it. It was gonna cost me more and I didn’t have a lot of choice. I was charged the $75 for the house call and I was also charged $475 for the modification. My house is only 20 years old and should not have needed those. So, I’m not happy with American Home Shield. On the other hand, the technician was okay and the water heater that he put in works fine.

We had a claim with American Home Shield where we had A-Plus Plumbing out here to look at a couple things. It was our overflow valve that was being a little runny. However, they didn't show up anywhere near their window when they were supposed to and the lady snapped at me and interrupted me, so we ended up not proceeding. We ended up finding our own plumber. Submitting the claim itself with American Home Shield is easy, although if I try to go through the phone number, then the wait times can be extremely long, up to an hour. And if I try to discuss through a claim there, then I also wait a really long time for that too. However, if I submit online, then it is not too bad.
We also had an issue with what we thought was a leaky bathtub a while back and we had a technician come out. He looked at it and said that it didn't have anything to do with the tub. He didn't do any work, but he tried to make me pay for it even though no real work was done. I escalated it up to a supervisor, and it was a nightmare. She was super not sympathetic at all and was not very customer-friendly and wasn't trying to understand. She was just trying to shut me down and hoped that I would just give up and pay for a service that I didn't actually get.
This time around, dealing with the plumbing incident I had, the supervisor was a lot better. It was touch and go. We've had instances where we had somebody come out, but we had to cancel, and we ended up getting a call confirming that the person is coming out, but we had to tell them not to bother. The reps were polite enough, but they were not necessarily reliable. American Home Shield has been about as good as any home warranty I've worked with, which isn't great. I'm more wary of them than not. If you call them up, you might not end up getting the service that you expect or the service at all. You might end up having to fight it out. But at the same time they fulfilled their services.
Good evening Hunter,
I understand your concerns regarding the plumbing issue that was accessed within the home for repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I like to call to file a claim with American Home Shield when a problem comes up. This time, the buttons on the oven at the top, wherever you first bake, weren't working when you set the time and the temperature. If you try to turn the temperature on, it was just straight through. A guy and a girl came out from Kinston Refrigeration Company and they were really nice people. Everything’s been good since then. But I also used American Home Shield for my air and stove and on both times, it took almost two weeks to get a replacement. So I went that long without a stove and air. I know they have to order parts and they’ve had to order it from a certain place but it sucks to be that long without something. Still, I would mention American Home Shield to everyone.

We recently had two claims with AHS. We had a water heater that went bad and a garage door opener spring that broke. I submitted the claim on the website, and within minutes, the contractors called me back to set up an appointment. The water heater took a little longer because the plumber came out and surveyed the repair necessary. And it was during the holidays. So, it took about two weeks to get a water heater installed. Thankfully, we had two water heaters in our house and we were able to make do. I understood perfectly that we weren't able to get it repaired sooner than two weeks because it happened right before Christmas. We were very satisfied with our experience with AHS. They were great.

When submitting a claim with American Home Shield, I usually call them up and tell them what's going on, and they ask for my account number. Then they get somebody out there and it's usually not long for the contractor to come out for the service. After the job is done, I pay the $75 fee and any extras that I have to pay. Recently, our water heater was leaking on the bottom and all over the floor, and we filed a claim with AHS. The contractor that they sent took three days to come out because it was the holiday. It was very nice dealing with them, but the only thing that I didn’t understand was that I had to pay $225 because a new code came out that you've got to have a pan under the water heater now. But they said they just do that for new homes, so I don’t know if they upgraded my water heater. Other than that, I've been with AHS for a lot of years and I'm very happy with them.

I've had American Home Shield for several years and they've always been reliable. Although there have been difficulties and I usually had something that broke every year, they've always been on top of things. When I had plumbing problems with some faucets recently, AHS sent out Blue Star Plumbing. I've had this contractor before and they were excellent. Blue Star always sent a crew of two plumbers together. The plumbers came in, introduced themselves, and got about their work. First, they took a look at everything that needed to be done, then they went about getting the problem serviced. If there was anything that they couldn't handle at the time, they arranged for the parts and called back. In my recent plumbing problems with the faucets, they needed the parts and ordered these for me, then they fixed three out of four faucets. I find the service of AHS outstanding.

Somebody else was sent out, but in the meantime, the first company turned up. When I looked up my account, I’d been charged two lots of $75, so it wasn’t great.
AquaBright Pool and Spa Repair came out and their technician fitted the new motor pump but apparently, it was defective, so he went straight back to the wholesaler. He got another pump, came back and fitted it. Up and running, it was fine. There have been hiccups with this particular claim, but I’m generally quite happy. I understand these things take place and it all got sorted out in the end. I would recommend American Home Shield.

***TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE ELSE.*** The customer service from this company is absolutely horrible. It took over 6 months to get reimbursed when we had to pay out of pocket for an emergency situation in our home. We spent countless hours on the phone trying to get reimbursed. Every time we ended our phone call with a rep we were told that our claim was being processed and should receive a check soon. When we didn't receive our check we would call back to follow up only to find out nothing had been done and we needed to start the process over. This occurred three separate times before we finally received our check for $1200.
Once we moved out of our home we canceled the service. Approximately 4 months later we noticed that we had still been getting charged and the email account had been changed (Shady). When we called to inform them about being wrongfully charged for the last 4 months we were told "I do not see anything in my system". Wow! The incompetence is unacceptable. ***TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE ELSE.***

I’d already had experience with that company before, a year or two ago, and I was happy with it. I told the contractor where I thought the problem was. He said I was right. He checked it out and everything went fine.
He did not fix it perchance, but he analyzed it, knew what it was and he got it working. I had to put a new breaker in, something he didn’t do, but I had no way to know that otherwise. So, I’m very happy with it. It was the best $75 I had to put for diagnosis. I thought it was the same problem that it had before with the heater, but it turned out to be the circuit breaker. We got that fixed ‘cause it would work intermittently. I was very pleased with the services. This is the 7th year I’ve used AHS and I plan to use them more. I've been doing this for years with a lot of different people and they've never had a complaint, including myself. The website navigation when filing a claim is very simple. We recently had a problem with leaking underneath the sink. We called AHS to file a claim, and we had to wait on the line for about 30 minutes to talk to a representative. Even so, they were nice and did a great job. The techs came out here over Christmas to see what the problem was, and then they had to order the part. They came back and put the part in. All they did was replace the gasket, and everything has been fine afterwards.
We like having the warranty because we have multiple houses and when our air conditioning system goes out, it’d cost us $5,000. When we had an issue with our air conditioning, AHS didn’t replace it but just had it fixed for us. If we talk to them, they will not say that we need a new air conditioning system right away. Instead, they'll fix the part or whatever issue it is. That’s okay with us because if we call a heating and air company, they’d find a part broken, say that we need a new system and we're stuck. With AHS, we know that they will tell us the truth because they don’t wanna put a new air conditioning system if they can avoid it.
Hello, Jack. Thank you for letting us know about your service experiences. AHS appreciates your patronage over the years.

They came back and there was some issue with the motion detector. It wasn’t working properly and they fixed it. They were very professional. They had everything that they needed right on their truck.
It used to take a week to two weeks to get on somebody's schedule when we filed our claims. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, which is nice. For instance, on the garage door that we just did, it wasn’t working. I disconnected it, and was able to lower the garage door to close it for the evening, and then I grabbed my phone, placed the order request. Instantly, there was a text telling me the specific company would be calling me. The contractor called back the next day to set up the schedule, and their next availability was only a day or two out. They came, and they almost got it all done that day. There were a couple of things that hadn’t been squared away and with no crisis, and then they were here on a Wednesday, and they came back that same week on Friday and finished the details. They were in and out in 10 minutes. It was very fast. Even my son was impressed. It's pretty tough to impress a 17-year old.
We had filed a claim one of the same garage doors about two years ago, and the fellow that came out and charged us about 300 bucks in addition to the service call charge. But all he did was put nylon rollers on the garage doors themselves which was nice, but unnecessary. We had to pay $300 for him to work on the electrical unit that's on the ceiling of our garage. But the last guy that came to do a microwave repair for us before the holidays was fantastic. He really, really did a nice job. I've been very, very pleased with the response and the service that I got from American Home Shield. Sometimes, it may take an extra visit. AHS was very supportive in getting a second opinion and they sent out another company who fixed the problem. We had some water issues with our faucets, and we had that fixed. I’m still having some issues with my dishwasher, though. But the hardest thing is the wait time on the phone when I wanna talk to a representative. I had an issue with the plumbing guy who came. He didn't know where to unstop the plumbing. I was sitting there, and if he had really looked, it was right outside on the front side of the driveway. So, when he stood aside, he said he didn’t know what to do. And he went out a couple times trying to figure out what to do. He said we may have to take the toiled out and then he said if he took the toilet out, he would not be able to contain it because it was too large to fit into my house. So, he said he might have to dig the brass up. I thought it was Christmas Eve by that time and folk would be coming over for dinner. By the time he got there, it was almost 3:30 and he was not able to do it. So, I made a decision to call Roto-Rooter. When I called Roto-Rooter, it cost me 240 something dollars.
I talked with American Home Shield to see if they would do something. And they said they would not reimburse Roto-Rooter. So, I had $600 out of my pocket because American Home Shield didn’t cover certain things with the hot water heater. The gentleman, Justin, who came for the plumbing wrote on his report that he could not find it. He didn’t look around the house. Roto-Rooter who has never been to my house before went right on it and found what they needed to find. But submitting the claim over the phone wasn’t difficult, except for we always had about a 45-minute wait for AHS to answer. I’d have to sit on the phone, every time. Except for Justin, the contractors who came were very nice and efficient. They were able to resolve the problem.

I recently bought a house and it was standard to change the lock. I made an online claim for that and American Home Shield's website was very easy to use. The only hiccup I had was my realtor was paying for the service for me. I had to give her my log-in information so she could log in and pay on my behalf. Otherwise, I had an amazing technician who came and changed my locks. It was really easy and he was in and out. I had an all-around pleasant experience. American Home Shield was great and did exactly what I expected them to do.

My AC went out and we paid $75 for the repair. But we had to stay in a hotel for one week, which we also paid for, because American Home Shield didn’t have anyone to come up right away and fix our AC because it was very hot. We also paid for Freon which didn’t work. So the second time it happened, they said that somebody would have to come every six months to check our unit. They charged me for $300 something but after one month my AC messed up again.
A guy from Royal AC came and he wanted to fix my AC but he didn't have the part. He also told me that my unit was very old and it would always go out. I needed to replace it but he said that American Home Shield would not replace it. And for one week, we ordered whatever parts needed for the AC. My husband is 72 years old and he had surgery. It was also very cold and we were waiting, so we had no choice. Finally, we let Royal AC fix our unit but we paid for it. We were told that if a unit is not fixable, AHS would replace it. But our AC was not working every six months and we kept paying for repairs that didn’t work. And it was not a very good experience. I’m with AHS for six years and they need to fix themselves.

I had no electricity on a wall in my living room and I submitted a claim for it over the phone to which I immediately got through to somebody. Since it was electricity, somebody called me back and was out the next morning. Electrical Services was the assigned contractor and they handled the claim great. It ended up that there was a plug that was stopping a circuit from going through and so they replaced the actual socket. The electrician also explained what he was doing, why it happened, and how to prevent it from happening again. I wish I remembered I had American Home Shield's coverage when the other things have happened. Nevertheless, I recommended American Home Shield to somebody the other day.

We own three homes, and we have American Home Shield currently on our three houses. I go online when submitting a claim to them and usually the same day, someone reaches out to us and schedules an appointment. Our icemaker stopped working on our refrigerator and AHS sent their contractor, Air Squad Heating & Air Conditioning, LLC to come out. The contractor was great. Any time we’re ever in contact, it was always positive and very good. Our other home in Las Vegas had a problem with the washer then the toilet had a problem. AHS' contractor came out and fixed them. The icemaker is working great. We're very happy. I highly recommend American Home Shield. Even if we have rental properties, it’s nice to have a warranty, so we don’t have to worry about anything. The contractor will just come out and fix whatever we have.
Great Vincent. I appreciate you being apart of the AHS family. We look forward to handling your warranty experience. Have amazing week.

There was something going on with the LED lights inside our fridge and with its panel and I think there was some issue with that. I called American Home Shield up and their reps were professional to speak with. They told me what company was gonna come out. The company called, made an appointment, and came out. But I was not impressed with them so AHS sent me another company and that was Texas Gulf Coast Service Center. They did a good job and the problems were fixed.
I have been with AHS for not more than five years and there were a couple of contractors that I did not like based upon what they show when they come to my residence. If I don’t like them, I call American Home Shield and just say that the contractor is not gonna work for me. I’ve had to make the change, and AHS made me change with no problem. They need to investigate more of the people that they send out to our home and make sure that they’re sending good people to our residence. Other than that, everything’s fine with my experience and I’d recommend American Home Shield.

Worth the read for detailed account of the headache of working with this company - all factual and with documented proof along the way: I experienced a roof leak shortly after moving into my new home. I called for a contractor to come out to my home. They informed me that there was only one they approved in the area. After calls and texts, he did not return any. Home Shield stated I could use my own as this was an emergency, but not until they spoke with him. This took him >60min wait. After being told he could complete the job, they said a check would be mailed within 2 weeks. This was 11/2/2018.
After no check, I called back (each call wait is >45min with this company) and told that he needed to submit ANOTHER receipt of repair (even though this was already done, and that's why the check had not been mailed). This was done the next day and told I would have a check within 21 business days. It has now been over 1 month, and still no sign of repayment. Multiple calls have been placed, but the departments in this company don't communicate. For instance, once you finally get someone on the phone, they say, "Oh, that would be through accounting, let me transfer... [30-60min]" "Oh, that would be reimbursement, let me transfer... [30-60min]" Finally was able to speak with someone who said they would look into this case and call me back the same day. That was over a week ago.
Long story short, this is the worst customer service I have ever worked with and almost seems borderline scam-ish to the point where I've been advised by MY REALTY COMPANY who sold this to me to pursue legal representation. Would caution anyone who needs something done quickly or who needs to talk with a person from using this company. I am now almost 4 months from proof of repair with NO reimbursement for a warranty I paid almost as much for as the reimbursement would be for repair.

My first-year premium was $30.99. My second-year premium was $31.99. My third-year premium has gone up to $36.99 with no explanation as to why there is such a large increase. I used it once in the last year. My policy covers 10 appliances. I am currently on hold, trying to get an answer to my question. I've been on hold for 25 minutes. Also, I found out last June that no changes can be made to the appliances that are covered until your policy is up for renewal. So, when I purchased a brand new heating/air conditioning system in June, I wanted to remove those "appliances" from coverage as I would have at least 3 years coverage through the company/manufacturer. I was told to wait until February 2019, my policy anniversary month. So, from June 2018 through February 2019, I am paying for coverage for my AC/Heating when I don't need the coverage.
The format on this webpage is also not allowing me enough space to give you the details from this customer service experience. I have been able to reach a representative, but she has put me on hold for no less than five times. She is polite, but at this point, not particularly helpful. I was just put on hold for the sixth time. While I had someone on the line, I asked why I had to wait until February to switch out appliances. She couldn't answer the question. She will be calling back tomorrow to hopefully answer both of my questions. Currently, my rating is two stars. If I don't hear from them tomorrow, I will lower it to one star.

Zero stars: I would not recommend using American Home Shield as your home warranty provider. Nor would I recommend the Hornet Appliance Services LLC. I have been trying to get our oven fixed under the warranty since November 2018. You can't ever speak to anyone at American HS. You're on hold for hours. Hornet is the opposite they get on the phone fast and get off the phone fast, they talk over you and don't listen. Hornet has been out 4 times. Twice just to say, "It's broken and we need parts." The exact same parts they replaced the first time and said it was fixed.
Today I have been on hold for a total of 2.5 hrs with American Home Shield. Each time I call I have to go through the prompts to wait an hour to speak to someone who then has to put me on hold even though I ask them not to, in order to review my file. JUST TO BE HUNG UP ON!!! once they read the file. So the third time I called and finally got someone I asked for a manager that never never showed up!!! Got hung up again. I will not be renewing our service with AHS.

Every representative assured me it was cancelled and my credit card was removed. This was not true. They would charge me again the following month. I asked for a refund since they were not authorized to charge my credit card. No one can help me except the Retention Department. They have been ignoring my voicemail messages for one month. I cannot get a supervisor or another customer service representative to help me. They refuse to give me anyone else except Tammy who was assigned my case. I have a home warranty and in my service agreement it says I have, "Electrical coverage.” (See attached contract photo). However I was wrong! They only cover the electrical located on the inside of your home... That’s funny, where does it say that in my contract, oh that’s right it doesn’t!! This company “says” they will cover your A/C and your doorbells, aren’t some of those components located outside? I’m confused!?!? I was instructed from AHS rep to contact Roof RX reps to come out to inspect and provide an estimate, max AHS will cover is $1000 per occurrence and rest I have to pay out of pocket. Per Roof RX policy we are only limited to work with their contractors (this was not disclosed properly to me when we obtain AHS). Besides poor disclosure, Roof RX $2700 estimate was ridiculously high (way over fair-market). I assume so they can make up for $1000 coverage. I had another 3rd party Reputable licensed insured local Roofing company come out to provide a TRUE fair market estimate which was $1,100.00. Also the scope of the proposed work was more than Roof RX proposal! This is not fair business practice in my opinion!

Our microwave oven was not heating and we submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. Their online site was very simple to use. I just had to say what the appliance was, and then people called me right away. That was good, although they could put in their site a quick “What seems to be the problem?” And I could say, “Not heating” just so they would know.
But other than that, I had a very pleasant interaction with the contractor who came out. He was trying all kinds of different things and he finally let us know that there was a part that wasn’t working. This is the second time on this microwave. He had been out before and had fixed it. On New Year’s Eve, we had people over for tamales, and the microwave was working all day. But all of a sudden, we tried to warm up and it wasn’t heating. An element was broken. I let AHS know and the contractor came out quickly. They tried to find the part needed but couldn’t find it. He said that if they can’t find the part, then they’ll replace the microwave. And then, I got an email saying, “Please choose one of these microwaves because we are gonna replace it." The microwave broke on December 31st, and I ordered the microwave on Sunday night. The selections offered were very good and comparable.
We have had to call AHS out several times. We called for a refrigerator, for the toilet that was leaking and a light that was not working over the sink, and that was an easy fix. The guy just said that the wires weren’t connecting, and he fixed it right away. We’ve been pleased with American Home Shield and everyone has been very pleasant.

When I closed, the broker's company gave me a contract for one year from American Home Shield, and that was in November of last year. However, I don’t like American Home Shield. They have the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. It's terrible. I had a refrigerator that started to go bad on December 9th. They immediately responded and sent a technician out to my house. The tech made a few adjustments but said he thought it was failing and should be replaced. He reported it to AHS. I tried to talk to American Home Shield, but I could barely understand the rep and she couldn't understand me. She was reading a script and it was a totally scripted answer. I asked to speak to a manager and I got, "He's on the phone," or "He's away."
American Home Shield felt that they should try to have the refrigerator fixed. That is their right and I don’t dispute that, but it was 12 to 15 days before the parts came in. The mechanics came and the appliance was completely dead by then. They said it had a leak, but no one fixed the leak. It couldn’t be fixed. At that point, it took a few days and American Home Shield gave me a choice of what I wanted, cash of about $1,000 or a replacement for an equivalent refrigerator. I said no to the cash and that I wanted an equivalent because $1,000 is not a good deal for a refrigerator. It normally costs around $1,700 and even with discount, it is $1,300 or $1,400.
I went with them and a refrigerator was finally delivered last Friday. However, as soon as they took it off the truck, the delivery company saw that it had been damaged on the top. And since then, I've been trying to get some help from American Home Shield, but it has been useless, even an attempt to talk to them. They put me on a wait and it always comes up that they have a lot of traffic. It's gonna be a 40-minute wait. I have not had a working refrigerator since around the 9th of December.
They made me a little paltry offer, "Well, why don’t I go out and buy a dorm-type refrigerator," and they would allow me 60 bucks for it, but I couldn't care less about the $60. I said, "If you're gonna do that, give me a certification that that's what you'll do." The guy hung up. He couldn't handle it. It has been terrible customer service. I've gotten terrific customer service from the freight company and they have really tried to help me. Even GE has tried to help me, but GE wanted to place a purchase order against American Home Shield as a replacement, but they can't do it against my name since American Home Shield placed the order.
When it comes to expediting something, when I went to American Home Shield, they told me, "They come from the freight company," which didn't make sense. American Home Shield owns the purchase order and they are the one who can expedite anything. I'm still waiting and the freight company is still trying to do their best to get me a refrigerator. But I need American Home Shield's cooperation to expedite the whole thing through GE. The freight company and GE tried to help me, but they can't do anything unless American Home Shield does something. I can't talk to anybody at AHS and they always have some excuse. I know whether they're reading a script or when they're talking to one of their purchasing people, it's just the clerk doing their job there. The initial thing was good. They had a technician out here within a day and it was a good response, but beyond that, it has gone downhill.

The guy basically came, flipped the switch and left. This thing was very easy and straightforward. I filed this claim over the phone and that was pretty smooth as well.
But I had a claim before this and I almost thought about canceling AHS because of it. One of the faucets in my house was broken and needed to be replaced. But the people who came over flat-out lied and tried to cheat me. They said that I would need to replace the whole tubing inside the walls to get a new faucet. They tried to make it seem like I would need to pay them $1,000 for the fix, that it wasn’t covered under the insurance and if not, they weren't gonna do it. I ended up fixing it myself for 50 bucks. AHS should be clearer in the beginning about what is covered and what is not. Everyone should have a warranty. If you own a home and if you have expensive equipment and appliances, it's very important for you to have a warranty. Every month, I pay about 60 bucks and let's say every year I end up paying $600. It's possible that I may not use the warranty for a year but next year, a $2,000 expense could suddenly pop up. Plumbing, for example, is a common expense and American Home Shield covers a lot of plumbing expenses, even the most basic ones like a flush handle. The warranty is a really cool tool to have.
I also had another warranty before switching to this one. And here, the great thing is that I pay $100 and a guy comes, fixes and does whatever needs to be done. I don't have to worry about anything else. That feature is really awesome. In my previous company, what used to happen is that a plumber would come and evaluate everything then based on the evaluation, he would call the home warranty company. He would spend hours outside on my driveway talking to the warranty people only to come back to me and say what is covered and what is not, and how much I would have to pay. It's a complicated business for a customer who have other things to do. With American Home Shield, I pay $100 every time and not worry about all those aspects of dealing. It's very simple and I like that.
I had a bad experience with the plumber that American Home Shield sent in one of the claims. It was also a local company but they came and damaged a lot of things in trying to make the repair. So I contacted my warranty company and they told me that in the future, they would not resend that contractor. That's how they sent A-1 Affordable Plumbing the next time and they were really good. Since the pipe was not draining, we were not able to use the kitchen sink and wash the plates for a few days but it was okay. Ralph came to fix the sink in our kitchen and he was amazing. If I have to submit another request in the future, I would always request him to come.
I had done that claim online and the website was really easy to use. But when I do it myself online, I don't see a choice to select a plumber. What I did last time was I submitted a request then I contacted the customer service and requested them to send A-1. But it would be nice if American Home Shield can change the website and have a dropdown with all the local service providers that they contract with. Then we can select one of them. That would be really good because as a customer, I don't want different plumbers to come every single time. I would prefer to have the same plumber. Still, the experience was very good.

The fan motor and control panel on our AC unit and heater went out and so I gave American Home Shield a call and submitted a claim. It was an easy process and I prefer it getting done that way over doing it through the computer. A repair company was assigned to our claim and the service that we have received from them was good. The contractors who came were great. However, we had a little bit of a mix-up and the repair took a bit of time.
The first time the repair company came out, the contractor ordered the wrong part. Because of that, they had to go back and we were without heat for a month and a half. But American Home Shield reached out to us and let us know the new date the repair company was gonna return. Finally, when the repair company got the right part, they came out and they got the unit fixed in 20 minutes. It was good. The unit has been great since the repair. American Home Shield has been helpful and it is a good thing to have, especially if you are buying a new home.

I have been with American Home Shield for a few years now. We have a dripping shower and submitted a claim to them, which is still open. We've had good interaction with the contractors, but I haven't been very impressed with AHS' customer service in the past. They need to hire more people so when we call in, it's not as long of a wait time. They must take accountability when the issue's not fixed correctly and follow up with the company. It shouldn't be on me to follow up with them. It's the point of their service.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I have a rental property and American Home Shield was recommended to me by my niece and in the last month, AHS has done four different things for me. There was a leak in the bathtub, a leaky faucet and leaky toilets. The last time, they sent people out who did a good job. They made an appointment and they were on time. They saw the tenant and fixed the job. My main problem though is communication. I have had plumbers and other service people who couldn't fix the job and they'd talk to the tenant but the tenant never talked to me, so I didn't get the information that I needed to know to get the job done right.
For example, one time, they went to do a job and it showed up online as being finished but the job wasn’t done at all. The problem was not within their jurisdiction, so they just didn’t do anything and didn’t tell me. I should be able to go online or else get a phone call from American Home Shield in that kind of situation. But other than that, AHS usually works well and I'd recommend them.
Hello, James. Thank you for your positive feedback. I do hope that in future situations, you are communicated with directly in order to keep down any confusion regarding what is needed.

I called American Home Shield over the phone but I had to go through the prompts which I don't like. I was also trying to explain to the lady something and then, she accidentally hung up on me. They should have a representative call me back. But they never did so I needed to call them back again and it's taking a long time to get in touch with somebody. Still, it was nice when the techs came out. They took the problem and told me they'd get back with me. Thereafter, they went online to order the part.
Everybody that has a house needs a warranty. It is valuable to have one. It's like having a warranty on a car. It's not an apartment, where they fix up everything. People call the warranty company about a problem and they'll come. If you got something that breaks down and you didn't have a lot of money, you can pay every month and get the service done through American Home Shield. They take care of the rest of your problems and the expenses.
However, when the company sends someone out to fix a product, they should have it in there what American Home Shield is gonna take care of versus what is gonna be out of pocket. You pay money to somebody, but you don't know how much AHS is gonna take care of. Also, the only thing I'm gonna get with the contract is what they charge me. I don't get a breakdown of what AHS is paying. If I'm paying $1,300 to a contractor and AHS is paying about 200, it might be cheaper for me to go and get their product myself and do it myself than have AHS take care of it.
They said the part that they need from my heater is obsolete now. They asked for the whole new unit, but I figured if you do your research, there may be a part out there somewhere. Nevertheless, people really need a warranty on their houses and if they're not satisfied with American Home Shield, they can look at somebody else who would provide the service that they need.

In Feb, 2018 I placed a call to AHS regarding my ice maker on my six yr old Whirlpool refrigerator. They dispatched a local company to fix it which they ended up replacing. Recently, water has been pooling at the bottom of my refrigerator. We moved the refrigerator and it looks as though the water line is pinched and now worn and may be the cause. I was on the phone with AHS for two days getting the runaround. I was told multiple times by a customer service rep that he needed to speak to his supervisor regarding a service re-call.
After two days I had to call Whirlpool who told me to call AHS since only they could waive the service call fee. I went round and round and round with AHS and Whirlpool that AHS can and needs to waive the service fee since the call pertains to the original problem. Then I finally got the number to the local company who told me again that AHS can and should waive the fee so they can come out and fix the problem. AHS refuses to waive it and is making me pay another service fee for the exact same problem I already paid for. Poor customer service. I’m so disappointed as I have been with AHS for three years and have referred neighbors and friends to them. I’m disheartened.
Good morning Marlene,

She has her monthly payments auto pay through her bank, but they asked if she wanted her service charged to the card they have on file or a different payment. She told them a different payment, and then proceeded to give the payment information. It's Tues and she went to check her bank acct and it was overdrawn due to them charging the payment on file rather than the one she had given them when making the service call.
She called customer service and they are telling her she set up the service call online and basically she was at fault, but I was present when she made the initial call. This has happened twice now! And when she asked to speak to a supervisor, there isn't one available to take her call! Unprofessional and no customer service! Again my mother calls everything in on the house phone and isn't tech savvy, and they're trying to turn it around on her. Unbelievable! They aren't even trying to right their wrongs and admit there was a mistake made. Horrible customer service.

We had a well taken care of. We submitted the claim to American Home Shield over the telephone and it was very easy. The ladies at intake were very nice. The gentleman who came out brought a team. He handled everything right away, inspected everything very quickly, and then he went about his business. He was incredible. I had no water, and his first concern was if I had drinking water and the ability elsewhere to use the toilet. He contacted American Home Shield to get approvals and he verified what kind of water issues I was having. Immediately, he got permission to start attacking my situation. He had to get the product, but he came back, pulled the well and replaced the unit.
American Home Shield, however, does not replace everything or exactly what you have. If you have the KitchenAid, you don’t get the KitchenAid with the stainless steel, but something similar. So it’s not truly apples to apples. We used to have a well sock. It used to be a thing and everybody got them, and I liked the extra filtration. But the well master does not like the well sock personally. He never puts them on. He said it's like putting a sock or extra filters over your HVAC and that it will inhibit the unit's function. The well sock hastens the wear on the pump itself. It makes the well pump run hotter and it takes away some of the longevity of it.
Although he put a very good well unit in there, it doesn't have the extra filtration of the sock. It was just a pity for me because we paid so much money to have it pulled and put a sock on, which was a silly thing. It’s a cloth that goes over the well so less filth gets into the pump. You would think that that would be better, but it’s very sad for me because I don’t like the taste of my water at all. My water hasn’t been the same. There is a taste to it where it used to be incredibly crisp. We used to tease we should bottle it to make money, but now that we don't have a well sock, one can taste the dirt in the water.
Still, I was very happy with the well folks themselves. He was extremely knowledgeable and very prompt. It was the weekend and it was a nightmare with everything going on, but the fella made sure he took his time. This is not our first year with American Home Shield. I have had very bad experiences in the past, but this was a very good experience. Everything has been operating perfectly since then.

I make my claims with American Home Shield over the phone even though I have to wait. I don’t really like the online thing. When we had had issues with our dryer and washer, I called it in and was on hold for only a few minutes. I've held for some 30 minutes on some occasions. It can be a very long wait if it's a busy time. For this claim, a technician came right before a holiday. I called the day before. I was his very last appointment and I was glad he was there. He was pleasant and didn’t act like he was in a hurry to get on vacation. He was very helpful and tried to be very thorough. He left the place neat and clean. He was one of the best ones I had come from American Home Shield.
Our dryer was overheating and the thermostat was not good. The technician took care of that just fine. As for the washer, he tightened up something on that. There was nothing major on that, but he checked it out and recommended that I use a product called Affresh which can help clean out the washer every so often. This experience was very good.
But I had one case where I had the refrigerator go out and it was the most miserable experience I had with American Home Shield. It was at a time when I had my father in the hospital and I had company staying here while we took care of him. I called American Home Shield about the time my father went in. They ordered parts but it was not coming in. My father was in the hospital for a month. When the refrigerator was finally fixed, he came home a couple of days after that. But during the time my refrigerator was out, I had to buy a small refrigerator to survive. I asked if the company could replace or give me some cost for that. Our appliances are getting fairly old and the main thing with American Home Shield is that they'll keep you going with parts as long they can.

I submitted a claim online to AHS for some electrical work in the kitchen. Their online site was good. My experience with the contractor all went very smoothly as well. He fixed the problem pretty quickly and it was very positive. However, I called one time for a repair and in the policy, it shows that it’s covered but they said it was not covered. They need to go over the policies pretty carefully and make sure that they’re updated before they send them out to the consumer.

We like American Home Shield. We've never had any issues submitting claims through them. I do it online and my husband does it on the phone. We've only had to call them three times, and all three times, we've been satisfied with their service. The technicians' work also seemed good. We don’t have any issues except for the last one where the tech from 3 N 1 Heating and Air Conditioning had to come back, but that wasn’t his fault. The first time, it has been blowing cold air, but we had reset it and then it just started working when the gentleman got there. The second time, it just wouldn't get warm even though we reset it, so he fixed it. My husband dealt with the tech and he also said that he was very nice and professional. He actually enjoyed talking to him quite a lot. Additionally, he preferred the professionalism and timeliness of 3 N 1 compared to the first people that came out.

When I tried to call to renew my old policy with another company at 7:00 pm, the company was already closed. If they had been open, I may have renewed with them but I work a lot of hours and that was the suitable time I needed to get my policy renewed. But American Home Shield was open for me to set up a new policy. They had a short wait time, so we switched. The person who signed me up was very professional, helpful and very clear. They were available at a time that suited me. Although our renewal for the old policy was cheaper and the copay with American Home Shield is more expensive, the coverage they offer was better.
I used American Home Shield for the first time when we had a heating issue. I filed the claim over the phone via the automatic prompts. Then, we had a specialist from Consolidated Mechanical out to our home on Christmas Eve which was awesome. He turned up when he said he would. He was super responsive and professional. He was able to identify that the batteries were gone in our thermostat. It turned out to be very simple and straightforward. I also had concerns if it had to be anything other than that, as to whether or not he was the right person to fix it. He didn’t seem to have a huge grasp or a desire to dig a little deeper, but thankfully, we did not need him to. So far, we've had a good experience with American Home Shield.

Ok, so we had American Home Shield for a while and we decided for our budget that is wasn't worth the money. When we had to change our debit card because of a security breach, we decided that we would just let the warranty plan go. We were on the automatic draw where AHS would just electronically pull the money from our account each month, like other accounts also do. We notified other payees of our new number, but when it came to AHS we thought, well, when they try to pull the amount they will see that account is no good, and cancel their service, done deal. Well, not so. We did not know that they were continuing to try to draw from that old card and then when they didn't get the money counting it as an unpaid account.
Long story short, one day we get a notice from a collection company, that we have been turned in for owing AHS 3 months of service. Mind you. we have over a 800 credit score, so not paying our bills is not our style. We called AHS to sort it out, and were told that they continue to bill the card on file regardless and not their problem. We were also told that, yes they finally canceled us after 3 months and we owe the money. If that is the case I guess we will pay, but we were never even aware that this was the case until we got the collection notice. A phone call or a letter would have been nice, so this situation could have been avoided. Also the customer service rep on the phone was rude and basically said, "Sucks to be you." Horrible experience. Buyer beware!

Let's start with a they do not deserve any stars. Also ALL of their associates, including managers, are HORRIBLE! They DO NOT try to understand any of the issues, they were ALL RUDE, and think it is okay to wait at least 45 minutes to talk to someone. My dishwasher broke and it took me two days to get a hold of them. Since every time I called I had to wait at least 45 minutes to talk to someone, and the first two times I called I got disconnected. After talking to them they sent a company, that called to make an appointment. The technician that was supposed to come, never showed up! So we spent an entire day waiting and they simply never came. I called American Home Shield and all they told me was to call the company that was supposed to come here, I called them and only made an appointment for 3 days later.
The technician came and did not do anything! He simply looked at it and said he would have to order a piece. The piece was ordered and as soon as it got to my house I gave the company a call to schedule the next appointment, that had to be scheduled an entire week later. The same technician came and said it was the wrong piece. I had to call American Home Shield at least 2 times a day until they ordered all that was needed to fix the dishwasher. They said the parts needed would only get here 2 weeks later, and that the company would give me a call. The day before the parts were supposed to get here I called the company, to try and schedule an appointment already. They told me they still haven't sent one of the parts that was needed to fix my dishwasher, but it should be there by the next day, that was the deadline.
So I called AHS again, and after 4+ hours calling, waiting and being disconnected, I got to talk to someone who told me the company never told them about that one part. At that point I have already called probably a thousand times, and explained the entire situation to all the salespeople I talked to. So I asked to talk to a manager, who told me I had to keep waiting and it wasn't their fault. End of story is, it's been over a month, I had to go through a Christmas dinner at my house without my dishwasher. I had to wash all the dishes by hand, and I'm allergic to the detergents. My dishwasher still broken, and I'll probably have to wait another month to get it fixed, that is if they did not ordered the wrong parts again. THE WORST COMPANY IN THE USA! DON'T USE THEM!

Tech couldn't get parts and he has submitted the information to AHS multiple times. Each time I call AHS to get update we go through the same run-around, them stating tech hasn't given them information, they promise to call tech and resolve issue. At least twice the phone rep has hung up on me when I pressed to speak with someone higher in the organization. They never get back to me. There is no mailing address, phone number, or online complaint site to file a complaint. We have been with AHS for years and were always satisfied with service on HVAC. Cannot give detailed review because limit of 200 words but I requested service for the 1st time early Nov. 2018 because furnace quit. Paid the $125 service fee. Took 3 service calls to fix furnace. Each time it would quit again within 24 hours. Was billed another $125 for 3rd call for same furnace. The $250 I paid would have fixed the problem with correct diagnosis the first time if I had hired a contractor privately. So why have AHS insurance? After waiting on hold for an hour to ask why I was being charged twice, talking to two different foreign employees for another 39 minutes, did no good! Suggestion: If you buy this insurance, have the contractor sign a statement that he has properly identified the problem. Proceed at your own risk!

Before unit was replaced all duct work was working fine, but my master bath was disconnected. I had the ductwork check the same day, tech reattached the master duct back in place. They then replaced my AC unit when it arrived 1 hour later and all hell broke loose. My son's ductwork would not work, I called them, said it was a bad design on ductwork. BS, it was working fine before installation. Tech said it needs a scoop, no it needs you to fix your screw up. My electric bill was $487.00, they sent a another tech out, the original tech that installed unit, wired a wire wrong and it fried the wire, which cause me to run off of heat strips for 2 weeks. I had to tell the tech that I am suppose to get a doghouse, and he acted like he was not aware of it, big holes or gaps on outside of house for rodents to get in after he came back out to install doghouse.
Did not put drain on unit for condensation, did not replace the breaker for unit that was requested for, did not put in digital thermostat that was on the work order. I had to call for them to be come back to install that as well. No inspector came when I was told a day that he would be here. Waited 2 weeks called them myself and the inspector came and was aggravated himself with the work that it failed. Wiring was jacked up to power disconnect, a belly in duckwork laying on floor coming out of unit. Dissatisfied with the work, I work for a fortune 500 company that has been around since 1800s, I recommended 38 people I work with to get AHS, I was fortunate enough to catch them before they contacted AHS to go with another company. Still things are not fixed, I will pay a local contractor to fix this myself.

Discovered a water leak on the main line (my side of water meter) to my house. After cutting off water, went to call American Home Shield around 12:30 pm. After multiple attempts (waiting on line for over an hour), decided to open a service request from website. That process went very well and had a confirmation from their service provider within an hour. But, after calling the plumber to confirm schedule, was told he could not come out for 4 1/2 DAYS! That is RIDICULOUS - was it AHS' expectation that I could be without water for that long?
Tried again to call customer service and was told by automated voice prompt that AHS would call me back in 52 mins due to high call volumes. That call NEVER came! By this time, it was 4 pm on a Friday. I contacted a real plumbing company and they understood the severity of the situation and had someone out to my house (after hours at higher rates, but they got the job done!). I canceled the service request on the AHS website. I am completely annoyed at the very poor choice of service providers engaged by AHS followed by the complete failure of AHS customer support to be available to escalate the service request.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I have 11, ELEVEN... AHS Warranties. You would think that this would entitle me to a basic level of service... So if you are coming to AHS purchasing 1 warranty beware. And if you are like me, coming purchasing a home warranty thinking that having your Air Conditioner or Heater covered is something that is ordinary and expected, THINK AGAIN! I have 2 houses, with AHS warranties, in between Meridian and Hattiesburg, MS. Both with AC / Heater issues that started and were reported at the end of November 2018 or beginning of December 2018. This is a huge area. They (AHS) do not have an AC repair company in this area. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE???
Finally they (AHS), after my calling to ask what was going on, sent (around the 12th of Dec.) Bridges a company from a 769 area code (I did not even know MS had a 769 area). They replaced the thermostat at my rental which I reported a few days later did not fix the problem. And said they needed to research the issue at my other property doing nothing, but would return the next week. THEY HAVE NEVER RETURNED. I’ve called them several times (no one answered) and left several messages. And text the serviceman several times - but no return text.
Finally after the 1st of the year I called AHS and complained. Hours on the phone between being on hold and venting to a AHS rep, whose 1st language is not English. He called Bridges AC (he had a special cell #. Us reg folks don’t) and was told they had received my messages but were not inclined to return my calls... They had taken off the holidays. I told him I expected more. This was unacceptable that they did not have an AC / Heater company in this area. He said they would bring it to someone’s attention and that I would be hearing back from AHS. I told him if I didn’t I would be posting a review.
Here we are, over a week later. I have not heard from AHS... I know if I call I will be looking at another 2 hours of my life on the phone... for what? Nothing? No help like last time? My 2 houses are still without service going on the 2nd month. Instead, I’ve re-filed online for service and received texts that Bridges, who can’t be bothered to return a call, much less complete a service properly has been re-assigned to the task. Just maybe by posting this review, someone at AHS will go... What? We don’t have an AC repair company in the Laurel/Hattiesburg area? What? We let a customer wait not days or weeks but going on months for AC/Heater work? Is this possible?
What? A Call for service can result in hours on the phone? Do our customers deserve better? What? We have someone with 11 contracts and this how we treat her??? How is this possible? What? This Bridges company is the best we can do? To all consumers out there. I cannot more strongly advise that you personally assess your reason for purchasing a home warranty. Find out the names of the Service Companies in your area represented by that company. In this case, AHS doesn’t even have a company for AC repairs in my area. This would have influenced my decision to purchase their warranty.
After finding out the names of the their local repair companies do a BBB check on those companies... because AHS is only as good as the companies they have servicing you. If in fact they even have a company that can service you. If like Bridges (which isn’t even in the area... and their tech made it clear he was doing me a favor) they are not answering their phones, returning messages, or doing poor work that requires a return visit, this may influence which warranty company you choose.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I had two things going on at the same time, which I failed claims for with AHS, and it was with the garage door opener and the central heating unit. The garage door opener was pretty simple. The spring broke and the contractor came out the same day and had the part. Whenever I reported it, they came out the very next day, fixed it immediately and had the parts on hand. They were real nice. But as far as the central heat it was a little more difficult.
The coil was leaking and they didn’t have the coil. I didn’t know to call them, so I called another air conditioner guy. I had to pay $300 some out of pocket, and they told me that I had to get Freon put in it. Someone told me that I was supposed to call the home warranty company and I haven't used it for that before, so I didn’t know. The coil started leaking again, so I called again. But the contractor AHS sent said they couldn't repair the coil. They had done the in-house unit but they were not really familiar with the air conditioner part. The guy didn’t seem all that experienced. The first guy did. But the second guy sent out wasn’t as familiar because he hadn’t been out before. He didn’t know where all the stuff was so he had to get familiarized with it.
The heating unit seems to be working okay now. But I'll find out when I get my first bill. I'm having to set my settings on higher than before though, which is weird. Before when I had my settings like on 71 or 72, it would heat the whole house normal. And now, I'm having to set everything like on 73 and 74 which I thought was a little odd. I asked the air conditioner guy to wear booties and then he kept going in and out with the booties on, so it kind of defeated the purchase. But the other guys, they were very professional. They wore their booties and you know you don’t want people trekking up your hardwood floors. They were really nice. I like American Home Shield. I would recommend them over the other companies.

American Home Shield is awesome. Submitting a claim online was very easy because I do it late at night. Then, they'll call me and they'll say, "We are gonna get somebody out". It is super easy. We had a toilet that was acting up and the guy came out and fixed it. It was super quick, and my partner who was then at home said it was okay. The contractors being sent out have been very polite and prompt. They also keep us updated if they are going to be late, so it is good. When we first moved into our house in June, we had a loss before I even got my paperwork. They made an exception, and they went ahead and helped us out with it. They were wonderful. Also, the supervisor that I talked to was empowered to make the right decision.

I have been with American Home Shield since 2007. The construction guy who built my house told me about it. I immediately thought it was a good idea so I called them to sign up. When I submit a claim, I do it over the phone. There's an automated service, and then the person calls me back. It's worked out. It's not a problem.
One time, they sent out a plumber who didn't know what he was doing, but the problem got fixed. He had to come back three times though and he was kinda weird. Besides him, the rest of the guys, especially the guy who worked on my air conditioner were amazing. We had a fridge worked on and so was the stove. My dishwasher wore out and they replaced that, even though it took three tries because the company that they used to provide the item dropped the first one, smashed the second one, and then one came with parts missing. But it was replaced and I only paid the $80.
Also, when I had to have my garage door spring replaced, AHS charged me even though it wasn't covered. But it was affordable, it was less than 300. And since I knew they were gonna do that, I told the guy that I needed a new remote, so he gave me a new remote. So far, they are the best and because of my experience, I have recommended AHS to tons of people and had given them their number. I tell them that they shouldn't even think about buying a house until they purchase a plan.

We’re working on issues with my heated floor, and it's taken a while for the vendor to get the parts. I've been waiting for about a week now. But I’m sure, we’ll work it out eventually.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it over the internet. Navigating their website was fine. However, they don’t sell the replacements anymore so I had to pay a little bit to get a replacement unit. I picked the model of the dishwasher and then it got delivered by one company and then installed by another one. I had to wait for the dishwasher to get delivered first, but the techs were out within a day or so. After the replacement, everything is good. Having a warranty is valuable since the house is 20 years old, and I’m on a well system. Appliances are sometimes older, and sometimes, you just need someone to come out and do a quick fix. Like for the dishwasher, it was completely replaced.
Thanks for providing your warranty experience Andrew. We look forward to handling your warranty experience. Have an amazing weekend.

When November came in and it got cold, I tried to get my heat serviced. It started working but then it quit. American Home Shield sent Total Air Care out and they have been out to my house eight times. They just left my house again and they said a board has gone out on my unit. It’s frustrating. If they're gonna warranty an appliance and after the third visit, they don’t get it right, they should quit doing the warranty thing.
I have not had any heat from November to December. This is the middle of January now and I still don’t have heat. I was pissed. The weather down here is usually pretty warm all the way up until October. But now, we have been getting some rain and ice at the end of this week and I hear it's gonna get cold. And so, he told American Home Shield and then they let me know that it was gonna be replaced. And it was replaced a week later.
The AHS representatives have been very helpful. I’ve had very good experiences. When we had to have our HVAC replaced, it was not so good because it was in the middle of summer and it took the person almost two weeks. We had 100 plus degree weather. It took him almost two weeks to complete the job. And they claimed that they had completed the job. And American Home Shield didn't check with us on that, and so we were sitting here. We had to go and buy window units to put in our home to keep from having heatstroke. It was so hot. Other than that, the very first contractor that came out with our HVAC was very helpful. But American Home Shield required a second opinion. He came out, he gave the second opinion, and he took two weeks and wasn’t honest about anything.
