We had a clogged drain and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. It was a fairly easy process and the tech from Barnett Air Conditioning came out and got here when he was supposed to. One of the things that is very irritating is when they tell you it's gonna be days before they're gonna be out. Somebody getting out within a day or so is important and this time, that was good. The technician was good too. He took care of the problem the first time he was here, which was good, and we haven't had any problem at all since the repair.

Our dishwasher stopped working and so my wife called in a claim for it with American Home Shield. Celtic Appliance came out and the gentleman named Cody showed up on time. He called about 20 minutes before he arrived. He went right to it and took the whole board off. He was in the house fixing the dishwasher while I was out walking the dog. He was very professional, nice, knowledgeable, and productive. He had the dishwasher up and running within an hour. He did fantastic and it has worked great ever since. I would use him again 100%. We recommend American Home Shield 100% too. We're gonna redo them in May and we're gonna keep them as long as we can. I've already told my whole family and friends about them. I've even told people at work how good they are.

I had a leak under the house. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online. I had somebody check it, and he said he thought it looked like it was leaking under the house. I needed to call a plumber. So I did, and he came right out and said it was not a leak under the house, that it was in relation to the water heater. He fixed it, the leak stopped, and I was very pleased with the whole experience. Everything was positive.

My most recent claim was for a wine cooler that failed, and AHS sent out a contractor to repair it. He did, but it failed again. He was terrific and a fantastic repairman though. He has done other items of work under the contract for us with refrigeration and he's very good. He's very timely and always lets us know when he's gonna be coming. It was determined that an additional part was needed for the wine cooler. The additional part was no longer obtainable though so we purchased a new wine cooler and AHS reimbursed us.
I called AHS and the woman told me what I had to do. She told me that I would have to buy the item first, up to $1,000. She also told me exactly what kind of documentation they would need and that I would need the invoice, the payment and the warranty from the manufacturer's book that came with the item. I had to make a PDF of it and send it to them by email, which is what I did. The experience was very nice. AHS did what they said they'd do, and their response has been fairly rapid each time there has been an issue.

We have had American Home Shield for over 10 years and have had great success with them. When our 20 years old hot water heater ruptured, AHS sent SDL Plumbing to fix it. They did an estimate and two days later, they came out and rebuilt the water heater because it was not up to the code. They did all of it and had it all done in about three hours. The contractors were very professional, friendly and courteous. They would ask what they needed and then they'd go ahead and finish what they were doing. We have hot water again and it is working fine. We are happy with American Home Shield. In fact, within the last week, I have recommended them to two people.

I have three properties with American Home Shield and I have referred them to my clients. My AHS warranty has been valuable for me. The gal that is the representative locally for us is absolutely awesome. Any time there’s a problem, I can call her and she’ll get the issue taken care of. It’s the person that services the customer or the client that really makes the company.
Recently, I had an issue with the dishwasher and submitted a claim with AHS. The F1 and F3 on it wouldn't operate. On the same day that I talked to the contractor, Nor Cal Repair Services, their tech came out. I have been with AHS for 20 years and this fellow from Nor Cal is the best one that has ever been out to the house. He said there's a part that's like a connection that triggers the F2 and F3 codes and if that part gets wet sometimes, then they have to go in there and replace it. The tech repaired the dishwasher and it has been fine since then.

Our neighbors had a smoker and every time I had the AC unit running, it would start sucking in smoke into the house. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and the process was simple and easy. It took about a week for the contractor to get in touch with me. The tech said that he used a certain type of tape and he sealed the AC along wherever he thought the smoke was coming in because it was hard to figure out where it was. It was cold last week and we ran the heater. The neighbors were smoking and burning wood and we didn't get any smoke coming into the house. We haven't had any problems yet and hopefully, the tape fixed it.
The tech sent out was fine and did a good job. He was knowledgeable about what was going on. However, he was baffled by the issue and I told him what was going on. We had the AC repaired before back in July and it got fixed, but whatever was going on afterward, I didn't realize that there was a seal that was supposed to happen, and they didn't do it. Nonetheless, the AC is fixed now. Everything was easy to use with AHS.
Good afternoon Gary,
I would thank to thank you for the feedback regarding your experience with American Home Shield and the air conditioner repairs that were completed.

I’ve had some bad experiences with some people that American Home Shield has sent. They were from the eastern part of Europe, and they were rude and never solved my problem. One of the Ukrainian guys, or whatever they were, acted like it was my fault that the refrigerator was acting the way it was. I don’t ever want them in my house again. After my experience with that guy, I talked to one of the American Home Shield people and he said that he was really sorry, and then he helped me find a good contractor. He has heard really good things about Nice Guy and he sent them out, and the tech solved the whole problem.
I like that with American Home Shield, I can request certain companies like Nice Guy and also my air conditioning guy, as long as they stay in business with them. So, I’m very happy because I can pick who I want. Now that I have Good Guys that I can call, I’m finally getting my refrigerator figured out. American Home Shield is a great company if you need it. If you don’t like that serviceman, you can call American Home Shield and they’ll fix it for you. You have options and they’ll help you come with a resolution. It was not like I was stuck with that guy.
Good morning Evelyn,
Thank you for sharing the feedback regarding your experience with AHS and the contractors that have serviced you over time. We are pleased to read that your experience has improved.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. We've had two claims with them and everybody has been professional. The very last one we did was for the furnace in our basement that was making a noise and wouldn't stop running. I called AHS to submit a claim and everything was quick. I didn’t wait very long for a technician or for them to answer. The technician came out, looked at the unit and told us that there was nothing wrong with the furnace. It was just the setting that we weren’t aware of. So, he showed it to us.

When my hot water heater was leaking, I called the Home Shield people and the service was good. They sent a contractor who replaced the water heater. They exceptionally did whatever they had to do to get it in line and all went well. AHS covered the hot water heater but some other work was done and I ended up paying more than I thought I had to. So far, the replacement has been working well.
Also, my garage door won’t work and a contractor came but they did not do the threshold part of it. I should have told them that the pad outside does not work, but I didn’t realize that and in order to get it to work, I gotta pay another $75. I do not know if I wanna do it or not. I thought AHS could cover the whole garage or parts of it, but I misunderstood and I had to pay for the door. There's nothing I can do about it, but I am satisfied.

I called a “reputable” company to check out my heating unit which had started making terrible sounds. The technician came and said my unit was dead. It had been working prior to his arrival but was suddenly inoperable. The repairs he said could total over $10,000. He suggested I get a new one for around the same price. This technician from Morris-Jenkins I believe broke the unit upon arrival and left us in the cold. I panicked because I wasn’t sure how we were going to make it without heat and space heaters are not good enough.
My husband suggested I call the warranty company (which I should have done in the first place). They came out and fixed the problem the same day!!! I had heat that night and still do 3 days later as I write this. My home is 32 years old and the heating unit is 23, but American Home Shield still covers them and I am truly grateful to save $10,000 after only having them for 3 months. Thank you???
Allison,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

So far, I'm very happy and I plan to keep my service with them.

I have had AHS for about 17 years with few complaints. AHS has repaired several items some they didn't, but overall okay. We sold our home on 12-28-18 so I no longer needed AHS. I called on 12-20-18 spoke to customer service and told them the home is being sold and would need to cancel contract effective 12-28-18. I was told to call back on the 28th after closing. I called back and contract was cancelled, or I thought. On 12-31-18 Ahs charged my account for the period until 1-27-19???? I called back and speaking to 2 reps who said there was nothing that could be done and no refund would be made, asked for supervisor and told there was no one working--really? Still trying to get my refund. BEWARE - all of those years as a loyal customer - I will never do business with the company again!!!!
Good morning Mark,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in cancellation and the premium charge. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

Our heater stopped working and it's winter and we’re freezing. I have my mom here who’s a drug victim and I take care of her. One guy came out and took a look at it and my husband was out there with him. This guy's name is Mike and he said that the heater which the guy who lives next door had installed did cut corners. Mike said that the heater isn't even big enough for our house, which I believe because the room that my mom is in, that will heat up until 80 degrees and the rest of the house goes to normal temperature so it’s like all the air is only going to one room when it worked.
Then, another guy came out and he said that he's a plumber and he doesn't work on heaters. He said he’s gonna hire somebody in January but we’ve been sitting here since then and my husband called them and said we're cold. The guy said there was a form that he had to fill out and that he was gonna do that but then, we didn’t hear from him again. I’m paying $200 every couple of weeks to fill up the propane to work my gas fireplace. I called last week because I finally got pissed off. I’m tired of being in a small Mayberry town where everything is good ol’ boy and I can’t rock the boat.
So I called in and complained and they're gonna send it forward to Brad and that’s the hard thing because we’re an American Home Shield vendor. I like American Home Shield so much that I bought a policy. Other than that, the only frustration I have with them is we had people calling us about a dispatch and we keep telling them that it's not our dispatch and that we don't have that number. Still, we work it out with them. We make them understand that it isn’t ours so we really can’t answer their questions.

I put in a service call for my water heater. I told the guy that AHS sent that the leak was coming from behind the wall. Even though he changed the date a couple of times, he stayed in contact and worked with it. He changed the hot water knob. I said that he was gonna be coming back out because the leak was coming from in between the walls. I had to call him to come back out and he had to change the date twice, but he finally came out, took the water heater out, and fixed it. I asked him to pull it out. I wanna put some more insulation in the wall. He said a different guy would come out to do the Sheetrock. I called AHS while he was here and they contacted me with another guy to do the drywall.
The insulation guy set an appointment to do the drywall, a Saturday, between 10:00 and 2:00. He got the measurements from the guy that did the water heater. He was was really nice. He called me today and he thought his appointment was today. I said that it was Saturday and that I'd see him then. He said fine. I had gotten back to work from my lunch break and received a text message from him. He told me he canceled the job. He didn't believe he would be able to get behind the water heater. He suggested calling AHS and ask them for cash in lieu. They'd cut me a check and I could hire a contractor to repair it. He has never been to the house so how can he say he couldn't it?
I called him and I said there was enough room. I said that if he cut the insulation into strips it can be done. It doesn't need to be perfect, I just needed it up there. He said he couldn't do it. I called AHS. I texted him that AHS said they did not have a cancellation from him. I said that if he can't come out, just tell them and they will authorize my contractor. He said he could come Monday at noon and that he cannot guarantee the work if the water heater is not removed, but that he would do the best he can.
Behind the hot water heater is pegboard. He said he would not replace the pegboard unless I buy it. Basically, I have to buy all the material for him to come out. I said it doesn't work like that. I said that I could tell AHS that he couldn't do it and that I have someone else lined up if they could authorize my contractor. When I called earlier, AHS put me on hold. The rep tried to contact the insulation guy and never got an answer from him. I tried to call him after that and he wouldn't even answer my calls either. I pay 50 dollars every month to AHS to not go through this headache.

I could never get through when I call American Home Shield for a claim as the hold time can be very messy. I submit claims online and it's a very easy process. I had a busted pipe and the contractor who came out was great and very professional. The repaired pipe is not leaking but now, the water pressure is very low in my bathroom and some other things are going on. So, my husband said he’s gotta call them this morning. With American Home Shield, there are times when we think something is covered and we call and they would say that it is not covered. Then we read our policy and it’s in a small print. That should be thoroughly explained to the customer.

I called American Home Shield as I didn't have heat. I went through the phone prompts and didn't like that, so I got an actual person. They said that they would contact me within 24 hours to schedule. The gentleman that came out was named Brian and he did a wonderful job. He had to come back a second time, but when he came back, he found out what was going on. The control board is apparently bad because it was not allowing the heat to get to the target. Brian said that they would have to order the control board and I'm waiting for them to get back with me. I called them on Wednesday, and they should have the part by today. AHS is very valuable since repairs on ACs would be ridiculously expensive and that can happen in the wintertime. I'd recommend AHS and tell others that they would have to be crazy not to go with them. AHS will get somebody out, and if things are not up to standards, they'll find a way to make it right.

Something was going on with my air conditioning unit. It wasn't getting cold. My daughter called AHS and submitted the claim with a representative. The AC is working now. The tech waited to make sure that it was still getting cool. I wasn't home at the time, but my daughter was here. She forgot to tell the tech about the heating system though. When it comes on, it makes this noise. When we reported the claim, we said the problem was the AC and the heating system, but the tech didn't look at the heating system. I think somebody else needs to come back out and tell me why it makes noise every time the heat comes on. I tried to call American Home Shield back again and I was on hold for so long. I get frustrated when I'm trying to get in touch with them.
When I'm trying to get in touch with AHS, I have these long waits. Then, when I do talk to somebody, I'm always getting disconnected then I have to call back again and have another long wait. Then I gotta go explain stuff all over again because every time you have to call back, you get a different rep. If I'm speaking with a rep after holding for a long time and get disconnected, why not call me back? Once you get in touch with them though, they come through on the repairs and do a wonderful job. Plus, when the contractors come out to do their part, they do a wonderful job. I recommended AHS to family and friends.

When I checked off the box for the light that didn't work, I got a voicemail a couple of days later saying that what had to be done was not covered. But there was no notification that there are certain things that are covered and others that are not. Recently though, there was a leak in the toilet and RDN Plumbing came out and fixed it. The tech replaced a hose between the wall and the toilet, and now it's working.

This happened over Christmas, so I was surprised as it happened pretty quickly. They called me the day after Christmas and then they came out the next day. The tech who came was very friendly and he asked if he needed to take his shoes off. He said he would take care of me like he would take care of his grandma. The first time he came, he diagnosed the issue and then he had to order a part. Then he came back and it took him about an hour to replace the faucet. Since then, the faucet has been going perfectly and we can start using our sink again, which is very nice.

Within a day, it went on the fritz again, so I had to call back. I was then put with a company that did not get good reviews, Eagle Air. I was not comfortable after reading the reviews so I called AHS back and asked if I could be placed with the same company that I originally was scheduled with, Air First.
Air First arrived and they were very responsive, very professional and on-time. They fixed my problem very quickly so it was a great experience. I hope that American Home Shield will continue to be accommodating. I will examine the reviews of companies that’s supposed to come to my home and if they’re not acceptable to me, I will request to change. They did rechange it for me, but they said that will be a courtesy one time. So, I hope that won’t be the case moving forward. If I get placed again with a company that does not have good reviews, I don’t want that service from those companies. I’ve been happy with AHS, so far. We knew some other people who talked about American Home Shield a year or two ago, and we didn’t think anything of it. Then our son got it for his house, and he called us up to tell us how great it was. He had a couple of repair jobs for his microwave and dishwasher and he was very pleased with AHS. So we called up, got the information, and we signed up with them. And then we had a problem with our dishwasher. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was great. The only problem that we had was to get through to anybody. You had to be on hold either for them to call you back or just hang on until you could get someone. But once we got a hold of people, they were great.
It took about a week for the whole claim to be completed. The problem was it was between Christmas and New Year's. But we were surprised that the techs got it so quickly. And also, when they checked the original unit, they had to see where the parts were available to repair it, and it took them a while to do that. And then when they found out they couldn't, they got right to us and said they were gonna replace it. We spoke to the people at Lu Appliances and they emailed us the units with pictures and specifications. After we looked at them, we called them back, and it was perfect.
The people who came out to install the dishwasher delivered it on Monday before New Year's. After we got it, we just called up and told the people who were supposed to come and install it that it was here, and it was okay. They called us back, and they came the day after New Year's and were early. They gave us the time that was up until 3:30 in the afternoon, and they were here about 9:30 in the morning. They installed it, and then they took out the old unit. When they finished installing it, they hauled all the stuff away. We told people about the experience we had. We've already recommended one person and my wife has two other people that she's waiting to get their addresses so that she could recommend them as well.

When the tech arrived, I told him what was wrong and he said he thought he knew what was wrong. He took the panel off and cleaned the coils, and my heater has worked perfectly since the repair. It was great when the temperature was five degrees here. My house was down to 50-something degrees and that was how cold it was until the tech got the heater fixed. Right now, it's cold and you can't operate if you don't have a heater. That repair was important.

I needed to assess where my septic tanks were located on a property I purchased with my wife back in July of 2018. The gentleman who came out were 10 minutes early and they were very accommodating. The guys that were there were consummate professionals and they literally knew how to answer all of my questions. I wanted to better understand how septic tanks work, how often they needed to be serviced and where they were located. You could tell that they were incredibly comfortable with their line of work and that this wasn't just a summer job for them. It seemed like it was a family-owned business and that they really took a lot of pride and integrity in the work and the service that they provided. So, I was very, very happy with them.
Since I've been with American Home Shield, I've made claims on the property and Grease Trappers was the best experience that I had. I had another one that was decent with Fox Locks out of Gurnee through rekeying the house and the other good one that I had was with the garage door corporation. Those three experiences were incredible and then three of the experiences that I had were terrible. Either of these guys that came out were rock stars or they came out and were very unapologetic and late.
There was a gentleman with a plumbing company who came out to take a look at my house. There was one leak in particular that was causing my wife and I not to be able to live in the house so, I have been in a hotel with my wife and my two children for the last month and a half. I haven't said anything because I don't know who to complain to. There was one pipe that was leaking and it stemmed from underneath the master bathroom Jacuzzi tub. It was leaking into the family room and living room area. So, I couldn't install the flooring in my house that I would like to install. I couldn't move in my furniture, which means we couldn't stay there as a family. I mentioned this to the plumber that came in and he recommended that I do some things with my plumbing system. He did the diagnosis of the house and checked what was around.
I asked him if his company would be interested in tackling the project since they were a licensed plumber in the area. I assumed this was a $40,000 to $60,000 job and I would be willing to hire their company to take care of it. He said no and that it was more efficient for him to take 10 American Home Shield calls because whether or not he does any work, he gets paid on them. It was more profitable for him at his age to take all of the 10 calls from American Home Shield at $75 or $100 a call, rather than stressing himself out about a large project where he has to hire a crew. He was giving me advice, but then he was not backing it up with anything. He was just telling me what I needed to do and then he was leaving. So, he didn't fix anything nor did he even open the drywall even when I offered to pay to have the drywall repaired because I had another contractor on site.
So, I asked for a second opinion and a new plumber came out. I took a lunch break from my work, I drove about 35 miles north and I sat there for an hour and a half waiting for the second plumber to come out. He never showed up. So, I called American Home Shield and they were able to get ahold of the plumber who called back and lied to AHS. He said he tried to call me and left a voicemail. I told him that was not true and that if he tried to call me and I missed his call, I would give him the benefit of the doubt. However, I never received a voicemail, and I was sitting in the driveway when he was telling me that.
I asked the AHS person what the deal was and she said she was gonna send them out. I told her that I was not gonna be here but I would see if I can get one of my family members who are in the area to come meet with him. So, my cousin who happens to be a contractor himself went with them on site on my behalf which took 40 minutes out of his day. We spoke to that guy and rather than going and assessing the work, apologizing about being late and doing what he needed to do, he took some of the notes from the last gentleman, even though American Home Shield says that he doesn't have any visibility to those notes. He had some level of visibility because before he even assessed anything in the unit, he literally just copied what the last guy said verbatim. He said there was nothing he could do, it wasn’t covered and it was a preexisting condition. Then, he left.
American Home Shield is a fantastic company and the portal is easy to use. Everything that they are doing at this point is right but I wish they would hear us out as the people filing the claim. There was more benefit of the doubt given to those who were calling in to complain about their experiences with these other people. We have no reason nor incentives to misguide them. There were two plumbers that didn't want to do their jobs and that was a bad experience but then, I’ve had good experiences. It was hit and miss and it’s who American Home Shield has contracted with. Some of the guys were awesome and some were just awful. When the guys are awesome, we’ll let them know as well as when the guys are bad. There are people who are getting a lot of complaints or the companies that are receiving a lot of complaints and AHS may wanna consider dropping them and finding another contractor in the area.

Everything was perfect when I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for my heater that wasn’t working. The second timeframe was 3-7 but the contractor worked with me. A & R Complete Services Corp came out on the given timeframe and the contractor was fine. He explained everything. The heater is functioning well now and it’s a lot warmer in the house. Having the American Home Shield warranty on my property is very valuable and I need some more of it. I also recommend it.

The compressor froze up, and it was due to the compressor pump that failed. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the interaction I had with their rep was great. I'm very pleased with AHS and the contractors that they get too. The contractor, Integrity, was perfect. They couldn't have gotten out there any faster. They said they were gonna be there between 8:00 and 10:00 and they were there at quarter after 8:00. It was like within an hour when I called Home Shield, so they were really helpful. They had to replace the pump. They worked it out last year, so they knew where it was. And for the washer, Sears took a day to get out here but they were good and showed up on time. They remedied the problem. It just had to be reset. I would recommend AHS. They're an on-call home insurance thing, that whenever I needed them, they responded to me possibly and very quickly. They do what they're supposed to do.

I like to talk to people so when I had a claim for the heating in my rental, I called American Home Shield. Everything in that experience was great. I refer American Home Shield to people all the time.

My water heater was making a rumbling noise and I put in a request online with American Home Shield. I could do it online if I was not in a hurry and it was easier for me when I was sitting down. Then, within an hour, I had a reply message that I have been assigned a plumbing company and they would be contacting me within 48 hours. They contacted me within 10 hours to schedule an appointment.
The gentleman that came from Habit Plumbing was very professional. He explained in detail what was happening with my water heater and gave me good tips and things I should be aware of. He tested the ignition and the lighter and said that everything was working smoothly and explained to me about the sediment that builds up into water heaters and how some of them do the rumbling like mine. My water heater itself was actually working and I didn’t have to end up servicing it because what happened to it was just normal. I’ve had AHS since September through a referral from a friend and I’m overall pleased with the quality of how things were handled. It was an excellent service. Their timeliness and professionalism were good.

When I submitted a claim for a washing machine, the rep listened to my complaint and she said that she would schedule somebody and that she would follow it up with a text message, and she did. She also told me that Integrity would be calling within 24 hours to schedule an appointment, and they called immediately. The serviceman who arrived was clean-cut and he did a great job. The service was excellent. Since the repair, the washing machine has been working perfectly. I was able to move along with everything and we had clean clothes for the holidays.
In the past, American Home Shield had sent nothing but idiots to my house. They don't repair it right. They would say it was fixed, they leave and I had to pay $75. Then two days later, it’s broken again and there’s a different contractor so there’s no warranty, and now I have to pay $75 again for a different company. I’ve been very unhappy with American Home Shield until this particular repair. In fact, I was shocked that the serviceman for the washing machine came from AHS. But the warranty is valuable. It’s nice to know that most things that you’re paying for every month are covered. They don’t always have the best people but this time, I'm so impressed.

Our garbage disposal wasn't working and the commodes throughout the house were getting clogged up for no reason at all. We called American Home Shield and we were gonna make two records, but since it was plumbing, it was made under one. The contractor came to fix everything and they were very good and very prompt. They called the day before and they told me that they were gonna come at 10:00. They called again and asked if they could move it up to 8:00. Since I had nothing to do in the morning, 8:00 was fine. They were here for a while, they were very courteous and they did the jobs well. Everything that they did since they came, came out okay.
Overall, the people that AHS picked were very honest and very courteous. They do their jobs and they do their jobs well. That has been the standard for American Home Shield every time that somebody would come out here. We've been with American Home Shield for 12 years and I do brag on them all the time. I try to convince all my family and friends to get AHS because they are that good.

We have had American Home Shield service for 4 years. They have been prompt and efficient servicing and making minor repairs to washer, dryer, refrigerator, toilets etc., and servicing the central A/C unit annually. Last summer, the central A/C unit went out completely. The technician determined that the unit was not fixable and would need to be replaced. The home office said the replacement of the unit wasnt covered because the tech had noted a filter was missing in the refrigerant line. I reminded them that they had serviced the unit for three years without noting or recommending a filter be installed.
The scheduler said they couldnt be held responsible since someone else might have tampered with the unit. (As if someone would go into the backyard, cut out the filter, and seal the line back up). The replacement cost $7,000, and AHS paid $0.00. We renewed the AHS service for 2019 to cover the minor stuff; but, feel that the company does not treat loyal clients well for MAJOR repairs.

We requested service for a busted water pipe in our kitchen in an inside wall Representative over the phone gathered all necessary information and proceeded to collect a $125 service fee which I thought was strange because in my past experience with other home warranty companies that was not collected until the contractor showed up. Plumber was scheduled 2 days later which was a Friday at 1 pm. Plumber calls us asking if he can come at 8 am instead. Unfortunately we could not change time due to work schedule. Plumber shows up and states that it is a noncovered service.
After reading my contract I do not understand why this was not covered being that it was an interior wall and we had already pulled cabinets and sink away from wall so he had easy access. We personally think being it was a Friday afternoon he did not want to do the job. We also requested service on our wall heater and for some reason we were told by rep on the phone that it is not covered because it is a wall heater. Again reviewed my contract and it states wall heaters ARE covered. I am done with this company!! They are good at collecting your monthly premiums and a so called "service fee" but not providing service when you really need it. I feel they are a scam! After explaining our experience to friends and neighbors (which a few are realtors) I am being told to stay far away from AHS.

Three weeks later I called about a bad smell like rotten eggs coming from the drains. (They do not have people to answer your service request). It is an automated system so you cannot ask questions. It very limited on choices of why you are calling. Long story short they referred Plumbing Inc and they called me in two days. I explained the issue and they said it would take 3 days to come look at the drains. When he came he did nothing because he does not remedy odors coming from the drains and left. I called AHS on Wednesday to file a claim. The company who was supposed to do the job said they don't do that. I filed a new claim, same company was assigned. I called AHS, was on hold for 1.2 hours, and when I complained about the wait the customer service lady first was aggressive, saying that they had other customers (I am calling about a problem they created and pay $1100 a year) and then she just hung up on me when I tried to get a word in the conversation. So they dispatch the wrong company for a broken pipe. When the company cancels, and tells me that "AHS will reassign the job", I check on the website and there is no pending claim. I call and, after waiting an hour and 12 minutes, they hung up on me. And I wasn't rude because I am a CEO and understand how customer service works. I am now on hold again and have been for an hour and five minutes. Stay tuned, more news coming.

Then, we had a super nice and prompt contractor. He also called to ask me if I wanted him to come a little later in the evening or to come at day. Otherwise, he could come in a couple of days. I told him to get it done that day. The guy explained to us that we are zoned and that sometimes, we have to turn the upper off to get more air down below because the heat rises and because our lower level was never turning that warm, because of the unit that we have and how it splits the air. So far, we have been happy with American Home Shield.

We didn’t have enough hot water in our tank. And apparently, we hadn't turned off the thermostat. We live in Arizona. In the summer, the ground water is very warm, so you turn the thermostat down. Otherwise, the water won't cool off to take a shower or bath. And we had never turned it off for the winter so it made the water cold. I called American Home Shield and they sent AM PM Plumbing in less than 24 hours. The tech was out the next morning. He went through things with us. He checked and saw that the heat was turned way down into the lowest temperature. And he said, “That’s more than likely what your problem is.” So he turned it off, and we waited for a few minutes until it started heating. And sure enough, our water was getting hot.
We're back to normal now. Having the warranty has been valuable because it was an older home that we bought. It's about 15 years old and so we don’t have a lot of user manuals. It turned out to be good because even though it cost us $75, it was well worth it to get somebody out here that knew what they were doing and showed us what to do. It saved us some money.

I'm a real estate agent and I used to always recommend Fidelity because that was what I used to have for over 15 years. It was all about loyalty to me but then, for some reason, they weren’t doing something that I expected. So, I went with American Home Shield and so far, my experience with them has been very good. Recently, my refrigerator's lights went out and I called them to submit my claim. The tech who came out was very nice and he efficiently did what he was called out for. It was a simple thing because he wasn't even here for more than 10 minutes.
While he was here, it clicked in my head that for a long time now, I had a problem with my dishwasher. So, I asked him if there was a way that he could do that as well because it has been like that for a long time. I was just dealing with it and I didn’t even know if it could be fixed. He looked at it and told me that I'd have to order a part because the portion where I put the dish soap broke, so it didn’t snap shut. He said the whole piece was about 75 bucks and I wish he could have ordered the piece then because it would have really helped us out a lot since we're on a fixed budget. But he said that I would have to make a separate call for the repair of the dishwasher. I hate that if you're gonna have a guy come out, which is gonna cost 75 bucks, and you want to have him do another thing that you forgot but is related to your current claim, that other thing would not be covered. Other than that, I'm liking American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

My faucet was leaking and I called American Home Shield. I waited a few minutes but it wasn't too long and the representative was very nice. Around the summer months of last year though, anywhere from June to August, it was terrible. I waited for 30 or more minutes and when I spoke to someone, I did not understand them because of the accent. That was about every time I called. But now I clearly can understand the person speaking. They then sent contractors within the same week who were able to fix the leak.
Last summer though, my air conditioning system was broken and it took at least four attempts for it to be completely fixed because it would work for a day or two and go back out. I had to keep calling and because it was the summer months, the company would say that they have so many customers and that they couldn’t get out until the next week. Then, they would say that they have ordered the part but wouldn’t be having it in until another two weeks. It was just horrible and I was about nine months pregnant at the time. My overall experience with American Home Shield has improved though. Just be ready to wait when something is wrong and then they order a part, if it's during a season, the cold months or summer months, it can take a long time for the turnaround time.

And so far, the ones that have come from American Home Shield have been great.
We had some lights that had gone out and we checked the circuit box but it didn’t seem like any of the breakers were flipped. An outside light had blown when I flipped it on and it took out some lights inside as well as the front entry way and our dining room chandelier. So, I submitted a claim for repair online and I was impressed by how easy it was. Ideal Services came out after 2 days and, in fact, one of the breakers was partially flipped. I showed him what the issue was, and the contractor knew right away that it was involved with the circuit. We took him out to the circuit box and opened it up. He looked at it and he said that it doesn’t look flipped but he would reset it and see what would happen. Everything worked after he reset it so I told him that we had done the same thing. And he said that if I didn’t push it all the way to the left or if I just pushed it to the midpoint, then it wouldn’t work. So, our issue has been fixed and we learned something.

Our furnace wasn't working so we filed a claim online. The site was user-friendly, the request was sent in a couple of clicks. The contractor who came out was really good. They diagnosed the issue right away, but there was a lack of communication between their office and ourselves. We had to call to follow up a couple of times to find out when they were coming and what was going on with the actual situation. They said they were waiting for parts and then it was the scheduling and then they’re waiting for parts again. They should have either emailed or texted, they had all our contact info. It was right before Christmas and it was getting cold.
Our main concern was that my parents were coming from Canada for Christmas, which isn't a big deal because it's a heck of a lot warmer here that it is there. But my dad has cancer, so we just needed to make sure that it wasn't uncomfortable for him and not put any additional stress on him. My parents came on the Thursday before Christmas, our part came in the day after they arrived. The contractor came and put the part in and did everything they needed to do that morning. That day was really warm, so we didn't need the furnace. The next morning, however, the temperature dropped. The furnace didn’t kick on, so I tried it myself and it didn't work. At 6:30 in the morning, my husband's gone to work, so I called AHS’s emergency service. I got a phone call back at 8 o'clock, and they sent two people out, the person who does the diagnostic and the technician, who came out right away.
It turns out there was some type of ignition issue where it was gummed up and it had to be cleaned. They should check those things before leaving and just clean it up to make sure that everything was working properly. But Friday, before Christmas, everybody's anxious to just go and have their holiday, so that happens. Since the repair, everything's working perfectly. Everybody was very pleasant. American Home Shield is great and the concept is fantastic! They don't have anything like this in Canada. So when we signed up for this and this all worked the way that it was supposed to for the monthly payment, plus the service fee, I thought this is wonderful. I highly recommend the service. I would just suggest that they find some things a little bit better with their preferred contractor, but other than that, it was a pleasant experience.

I had used American Home Shield on my previous home, so I had suggested to my husband to check into them when it was time for warranty renewal on our current home. The contractor representing Breakthrough Pools was a really nice guy, really prompt, followed through, and did everything he said. We were very pleased with them.
For the electricity claim, the contractor is on recall to come back out. The guy that they sent out didn’t fix the problems when he came out. In fact, he told us to go and get something to fix it, and if that didn’t work then to call him back. So we did that and it didn’t fix it. My husband talked to the contractor and he's coming back with a supervisor. Technically, for that one, we feel like we wasted our money. The electric issue has affected us much because the lights in my son’s bedroom would flash on and off due to something that was out in the light socket. Also, I can't turn on any porch lights to see when we're walking outside around the pool. At this point, for as long as they come back and do what they say they were supposed to do, then we're satisfied.

I wish American Home Shield had called me over the last couple of years because I was ready to cancel. Their customer service is crappy. I am always on hold for a minimum of one hour, waiting for service. I am absolutely livid with the way I've been treated for the last five years. Also, I had so much out of pocket cost because of them sending out substandard people to make my repairs that I actually had to hire private people to do my repairs. It was $1,300 and the other one was about $300 with a discount. I was not happy.
I've had my cooler worked on at least twice a year. There was one time where the bearings were out on the motor shaft, and the techs said there was nothing wrong with it. I took pictures, I submitted them to them and they said there's nothing wrong with it. But anyone, not even trained, can tell the bearings were bad, and they refused to fix it.
Then one time the airflow of the heater was only good in one bedroom and one bathroom. I didn't know if it was a ductwork issue, but the front half of the house was always cold. But the problem was, I've had some recent traumas this past year. I left my daughter and my mom and within 17 days to each other. My other daughter moved down and so we have a lot of clutter. I have boxes in front of the intake vent and didn't realize it. That's why there was no airflow in the beginning. And rather than rip me off and come up with nonsense repairs, which has been happening, the tech happened to look down and showed the problem. I felt totally stupid and over the last five years prior, the techs were not trained at all.
I also had a mainline sewer back up. A guy came out and the company charged me $300 out of pocket for him to get on the roof to snake out the line. It sounded like he was running a drill and the problem was not fixed. They said they could run a camera down there and it would cost me another $270 for that. I just told them to go ahead and do it.
The guy came back the next day. I got charged another $300 to get back on the roof. American Home Shield won't cover it. It is a bunch of nonsense because the older homes do not have the ground inlet. They're on the roof. You have to go up on the roof. It's crappy that I'm being charged for that. When he came back the next day with the camera, he wanted to charge me another $300. I called my brother and he sent his friend out who's a commercial plumber. He said there is no way you can run the snake at 55 feet from the roof and reach the clog. So I got ripped off. You have to take the toilet off the floor and go that way.
They sent a guy out for my mainline water break and he wanted to charge me $13,000 so I said I wanted an estimate. They came back with a $13,000 estimate. I told them I wanted to see an itemized bill because I know the line for that is only $1000. I wanted to know what the other $12,000 was for. And again, I called my brother because he works for construction and knows contractors. The guys that came out here rented a trencher. They had two men come out, they laid the line and they replaced the copper piping. They actually gave me another spigot on the other side of the house, and it's only $1,300.
This last experience was pristine. The person that I spoke to, Ashley, was awesome, very quick and professional. I got my work order put in in a timely manner. AHS said someone will come the following day. I got the text messages saying my claim has been submitted. They also said the tech would be out between 10:00 and 2:00.
AHS sent out one of the old companies that I had a really bad experience with but I gave them a chance. They sent a tech out and his name was Rico. He came here about 10:00 - 10:15. He was nice, prompt and awesome! However, I feel like it's been a waste of my money every month to get charged. And then I found out my appliances aren't covered. That’s a policy issue. As far as the repairs and stuff, in the beginning when I first bought the house you get that first year's coverage. For the first couple of years, American Home Shield was good and then it started going downhill.
Good afternoon Eileen,
I understand your concerns regarding your overall experience with AHS and the contractors that have serviced you. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

The house we bought is an old home that was built 25 years ago, so we've gotten into that stage where the new things that were put in tended to have problems. We've had the house on the warranty in the three years that we've had it and the warranty has been pretty good. Recently, I filed a claim online with American Home Shield when there was a simple blockage in a couple of sinks that needed to be routed out. Navigating their website was straightforward and there wasn't any particular difficulty with it. I’m an IT consultant, so I didn't even mind.
The contractor, Pipe Dream Plumbing, was sent out by AHS. I was told that I would be contacted by the technician within 24 hours, but I didn't get that response and didn't expect it because this was during the holidays. But I had used them before and their response has usually been accurate. Also, the tech that came had been out here before, so he was somebody that I knew.
One time, though, we had a garage door opener that broke and it took 45 minutes on the phone to get a technician to fix it. That seemed unrealistic because the unit itself was 25 years old and the gear that broke was plastic. The tech said he could fix it but he would be back here the next week because it was starting to fall off, and they went around and around. I said that it's a $300 item and they needed to just get over it, and eventually they did. Since the guy was here, I also had him replace my two garage doors. AHS paid for one and I paid for the other one. But that seemed like a lot of hassle for something that was pretty straightforward, especially for something that old. But anyway, I understand that insurance companies don't like to pay for stuff, so that's standard. That’s the only irritating thing that has ever happened in the time that we've had the warranty. So, it has been very valuable to have and I would recommend AHS.

American Home Shield has been good. The only trouble is when I call them, I’m on hold for 40 minutes or longer. They didn’t apologize for the wait time. I am considering going back to Old Republic because of that issue. And when I had a broken toilet I got a second opinion because the first opinion was incorrect. The gentleman that came out to fix the water heater went out of his way to install it the same day so that was good service. But he was also the one that looked at the toilet. When I told him it was broken, he said it was cosmetic, and it wasn’t. AHS wasn’t very clear on the fact that I should call for a second opinion until I insisted that it was broken, and, in fact, it was leaking. So then they kinda caved in and asked if I would like a second opinion. I told them absolutely and to send somebody out. Another plumbing company came out and told American Home Shield that it was in fact broken so they gave him clearance to go ahead and fix it.

The garbage disposal was leaking when I turned it on. I called American Home Shield and it took them a day to send Robco out to my home. The plumber looked at the garbage disposal and he tightened up the pipe up, so it’s not leaking anymore. The service was excellent and I really liked the guy. He was very friendly and professional, and he did what he was supposed to do. He also told me how to clean the garbage disposal. Its performance since the repair has been excellent. My experience with American Home Shield has been very wonderful and I've been very satisfied.
Good morning Agrippa,

I would recommend American Home Shield. It is valuable to have because of its convenience. One phone call took care of everything. I also had a very good interaction with the claims representative. Three days after submitting the claim, All Systems Heating and Air came out and described what was wrong. They also communicated by phone when they were gonna be there and called to make sure I was there.

We had a leaky toilet. I filed the claim online and the process was very easy. I felt good on how quickly they were able to get somebody out. I told the contractor what the problem was. He went right into the restroom and figured it out. He replaced the wax ring what he said the problem was and I haven't had any leaks since. American Home Shield has very good service. We love it.

I called in because my oven was broken. The guy came out, took a look and determined it needed replaced, he said that they would call me. They never did. After a couple of weeks I call them, they sent me to another phone number. I was on hold for 30 minutes then hung up. Called again the next day waited on hold for another 35 minutes and then they hung up on me. I am currently on hold again. It has been 50 minutes now and still nothing. Live in Florida. HVAC went out. A/C wouldn't turn off (ran constantly) and heat would not go on (including e-heat). Called, and waited 48 hours for call back to schedule a technician. Firm called, came, looked at unit and bailed. Gotta give them credit for that - rather have them bail versus work on something they don't know. Waited another couple of days for a reschedule with another firm. They arrived promptly, and quickly analyzed the problem - a bad board (which theoretically was under warranty from appliance manufacturer).
Local contractor reported results to AHS who took 18 days - I repeat - 18 days to order the part, which 30+ days later remains undelivered. I am now day 35 into a no heat/no ac situation. Trying to contact AHS regarding this, but already 18 minutes on hold. But of course they have already been paid the $125 for the service call. Luckily it's December in Florida andIi am coping with space heaters. Thank heaven this isn't July, nor do I live in No Dakota, or I would have had to abandon ship by now. Summary, not impressed, will NOT be renewing this policy.

If there were 0 stars it would still be too much! I found out the hard way that they are high on their service calls. I told them that after the last service was done, I wanted to cancel my contract. Apparently it was NOT done... Trying to call customer service is a joke! No matter what number I called (and there were 4), I was put on "eternal hold." I wanted to see how long it would take for them to answer, one number I was on hold for 35 minutes! Another one for only 28 minutes... Good thing I have a speaker on my phone, I was able to get some housework done while I was waiting! I gave up after the last number was called and I got the SAME "elevator music!" Very annoying music to say the least! I wish I had never signed up with this company that is supposed to be "The BEST!" "Buyer Beware!"

This company's review process is fraudulent and they make decisions not based on the real issue but to avoid paying for repairs. Our washer was making a noise and we called for inspection. The technician's recommendations to us was that the problem was due to normal wear and tear. AHS tells us it is due to overload based on the technician's recommendation. They indicated that they don't have anything in writing and they only collect verbal recommendations from technicians. How can I as a consumer trust that AHS does not change the diagnosis to their benefit so they don't have to pay. Do not sign up with this company. When you call, it takes 45 min to an hour before anyone answers the call. Their service is terrible. I do not recommend this company to anyone.

I had a clog in my plumbing line and as a result all bathrooms were backed up. I called numerous times and clarified I needed this done ASAP as I have a small child in home and nowhere else to go. Days passed and hours spent on the phone with customer service agents that have no customer service skills. There is an absurd disconnect with the overseas representatives and it should be addressed.
At this point I have verified with an agent a plumber will be dispatched days later and they will have septic ability. Plumber comes and spends no more than 15 minutes in my yard. He tells me this issue is a septic issue and he doesn’t have septic ability. That my problem is not covered by my warranty and that I need to call a septic service. Irate, I call the septic service and pay for them out of my own pocket because we have gone a week without working toilets and your contractor is telling me that’s the next step. The septic service advises that the issue was a clogged pipe that the plumber should and could have addressed and that my septic tank was fine.
After snaking my line the problem was solved $150 later. So I call in to have this refunded as well as the $75 useless plumber service charge. After many calls, long hold times, and dropped calls from overseas agents I got Rachel who advised me to send in my receipt to a fax number and her and her supervisor would review and follow up. I have forwarded this receipt now 5 times via fax, verified the fax number and still it has not been addressed/received. Today I call and am expected to reexplain all of this because nobody can check the file. I specifically ask for an email address to scan this document and low and behold am provided with one. This should have been offered the first time I was asked to send my receipt. Overall the service has been poor and I am still waiting on a refund. I have spent hours of my life trying to get help on this, weeks have passed and still no resolution.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a dishwasher that wasn’t receiving electricity. Then the contractor called me to make an appointment within 48 hours. They could have come out within a day or two, but I had family in town, so I pushed the service appointment back and I was able to schedule it for a week later.
I bought this house, which is like a flipped home, and the flippers took a lot of shortcuts with it, which is so annoying. What happened with the dishwasher was that they just hadn't screwed the plate on and connected the wire properly, so it was a really easy fix. But in order to get around the dishwasher, the tech would have had to disconnect the waterline and do plumbing work, which is not what he does. So he reached behind my dishwasher, laid on my dirty kitchen floor for an hour, and did the entire job one-handed so that he could get it done sooner for me and he wouldn't have to call a plumber out to disconnect the waterline, then he could get back there. He was awesome and everything has been operating wonderfully since the repair. We were hand-washing dishes and drying them out before the repair, so doing the dishes is way easier now.
Our AHS warranty has been incredibly valuable because this was the third time that I've had service people come out. One was for the heater when it got cold here and another one was for an electrical issue. I'm definitely thinking hard about renewing my warranty with AHS for the next year since I've used it a lot. AHS is worth the cost, especially because most of the houses in my neighborhood were built in the 1970s and as things are progressing, they're all getting little issues here and there. So, I would definitely recommend AHS.

The toilet was stuck up, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. It took a little while for them to send out a tech but it was over the Christmas holiday. I did it on a Sunday, and they said they would have somebody that'd go on the 28th. And then the company called because they had some type of emergency so they need to reschedule it. Nevertheless, the interaction with the contractor was amazing. He was very professional, courteous, enthusiastic, and he called me to let me know that he was about 10 to 15 minutes out and when to expect him.
When he got there, he got right to work, resolved the problem and tested the toilet a couple times. He told me step-by-step everything that was wrong and everything that he was doing and needed to do. He replaced the washer on the valve and that was why the toilet was clogging. And he was gone within 30 minutes. Having a warranty is a lifesaver. Without it, I should have the cost. Every homeowner should have a home warranty because this is worth more than gold or diamonds. It is priceless. I would tell others to get American Home Shield today. They shouldn't waste and even think about it as it pays for itself.

Recently, the contractor, After Hours Plumbing and Pump Service, came out for a service call. They were excellent and everything has been functioning fine since they’ve been out. One was the heating duct and another was with Northwest Sundance which was a pump in the crawlspace that was not working properly. It caused water in there so that was the problem. After I repaired the crawlspace, they came in again to check the work and they found the pump needed to change a new one, so they got it done for me. The reps were wonderful. Tazewell Plumbing called me within 24 hours, and then they came out very quickly. There were multiple lines that clogged up over time so the tech went in and just cleared some of those out. And then there was something in relation to the actual shower head that we had looked at and worked on, and something regarding the plumbing and the tech got that to work. The water heater was bad and American Home Shield replaced the water heater. But that same night, my tenant started to smell gas. So she called and had the gas company come out. They shut it down, ran the air test and got a negative reading. They took the meter and said they had to get it redone. We called American Home Shield back and told them. Then they sent the plumber back out there. He checked the line and found several leaks. He called American Home Shield and gave them the estimate but they wanted a second opinion. It was late at night on the 28th.
We told them it was an expedited claim because the meter was taken out and it was cold. We had to move the tenant out because she couldn't stand it. American Home Shield was gonna set up an expedited claim but it wasn't. They called Comfort Heating and Air who told us on the 28th that they couldn't get out there until Monday, the 31st. They said they would put us on the schedule anyway and to let them know if we could get something quicker. I called American Home Shield back and they said they were gonna expedite the claim and send Leak Detection. That was supposed to happen on the 29th, which would have been that Friday.
Once I got the email, I called rather than wait on Leak Detection to call me. But they said they haven't heard from American Home Shield Home Shield. They said they didn't even have me on the schedule. But when I get an email from American Home Shield, usually the company would get the same email and they would know about it. So I don't know if the rep was just telling me that. But they also said that there was no way in the world they could get out there the next day. They said they couldn't get out there until Wednesday. I called American Home Shield back and they said they had talked to somebody named Rick at Leak Detection. They were gonna call Leak Detection back to find out why they were telling me that. The problem was we couldn't book somebody else until they tell us they can't come. And it was getting into the weekend.
The service was going to be Monday at the earliest because I already had a company that said they could come on Monday. I called Comfort Heating early Monday because they said the schedule would be between 8:00 and 12:00. They called me back and said the guy had called in sick. They said the service would not be until the next day. That was New Year's Day but when I asked, the lady said, "Yeah. Well, I'll be here so I guess they'll be here too." But she called me back that night, at around 7 o'clock, and said I was right. They were not gonna be able to make it the next day. So they pushed the service out for Wednesday.
The technician called me about 10 minutes to 5:00 and he was asking where I was at. I told him that I was waiting for a call or a text. He said that he had advised he was coming but I never got a call or a text. It turned out that I got an email at 4:06 saying people were on the way from Comfort Heating and Air. But I didn’t check my email and I missed that because nobody called. The technician gets off at 5:00 but he waited on me and he was such a nice guy. It was Sam from Comfort Heating and Air.
He asked how many appliances I had. I said I got a washer, a stove, a furnace and the water heater. He said he would run the line, from the meter to two appliances and we were gonna call it a day. He also said that he had been doing the job for 30 years. What I think he was saying was that we should have done it a long time ago. I don't know why American Home Shield got all those other claims. We didn't even need them. I even asked American Home Shield if I could go ahead and fix this then they would reimburse me. But it worked out, other than it cost me money. I lost more than I had to take since I couldn't charge the tenant rent. The technician is still coming though. He told me they would put me on the expedited list and bump me to the top because we don't have any heat. He said the appointment would be the next day, afternoon.
American Home Shield is supposedly the best warranty company in the business. That's the reason why I've had them for years. But even though I kept calling, nobody answered the phones. That is probably how they could pay these claims though. They keep their overhead down. I was on the phone for hours at a time. I walk around with the phone in my pocket, singing their song in there. And the vendors have the same problem. So whatever American Home Shield is doing as far as people answering the phone, that's bad. They've gotta fix that wait time. That's just craziness. Once the people got there though, it was great. The people are the nicest as they can be.
The other thing is if the client said that the vendor said he couldn't do the work, American Home Shield probably needs to take the client's word for it and call somebody else, especially in this kind of industry. I understand their policy that they don't want two vendors going out there at the same time though. Their problem would be that there are clients who are dishonest. But that's some craziness maybe. It’s also a shame to say that there needs to be a better warranty company out there because American Home Shield is still the best one out there. This is the experience with the best one out there. That's crazy.

American Home Shield was good. We just moved in and started to turn stuff on, and got a couple of leaks in the laundry room, one at the main shutoff in the garage, and then, Joe was in the crawl space, and he saw a leak down there too. We were first-time homebuyers and we were really worried, and it made it hard to do our laundry. Submitting the claim online was easy.
The contractor sent seemed professional and knowledgeable. He talked us through what was going on and told us what the options were and how to get it fixed to make sure that it was still covered. So, he explained that if we do any modification, then we would have to pay out of pocket, which we appreciated 'cause we just bought a home. So we didn't really wanna spend a bunch on plumbing. Our experience went really smooth. We were both surprised and happy, that right after we submitted the claim, three minutes later, we got a call from the plumbing place. That put us at ease knowing that we had something set up. So that was nice.

They contacted me just prior to the holidays to set up an appointment. The tech they sent out was excellent. He came in, his feet were clean and he asked what was going on and I told him that the dryer started smoking and it just locked up. I told him that I assumed it was the belt, to which he said I'm right. It took him about 10 minutes to take the thing apart, and it was indeed the belt. He went to the pickup, came back and put the belt on and was very gracious and professional. Then he gave his phone number and his card.
I have used the contractor a couple of times and they've always been efficient. When the dryer had the tumbler bearings, they were right on top of it and ordered the parts. I've used American Home Shield several times and I would recommend them. I have not had a problem with any of the work that their contractors have done, although they did have to come back and do something else. But that was a planned move so I don't have a problem with them. When we thought there was a leak from a pipe in our utility room, we called American Home Shield and the reps on the phone were excellent. About four days later, the contractor was able to come out. Before then, the leak continued but it was not a major one and we were able to take care of that until the plumber got here. Plus when I had called American Home Shield, I was able to get the name and the telephone number of the agency that was supposed to come out. So if it had been a bigger issue, I could have called in and asked that they come quickly. It was done professionally and quickly.
The two plumbers got here when they were expected to come and they were gentlemen. They came in, took their shoes off and went to work. They seemed to know what they were doing and once they found the problem, they fixed it and explained it to me. It wasn't the leak on the side. The toilet seeped. The seal on the bottom of the toilet was what was leaking and that was right next to the utility room. They showed me the item that they had to remove and left. It was not a long stay. They were here for less than an hour and there's no more leaking now. I had also asked if there was damage to the wall and they did tell me, which was a positive thing. They said it was very minor and suggested that I put a heater in the room and close the room off for a day. They also told me not to let anyone use the toilet for 24 hours because they had put a seal around the bottom of the toilet, and everything went fine.

Recently, I had an electrical issue and I called AHS, made a payment, and requested for an electrician to come out and look at the issue. I didn't have electricity for two days, so that was bad. I asked if the repair could be expedited, but they said no, and that was the only downside. Other than that, the electrician that came out was cordial and professional. He did what he was asked to do and I had a good experience.

My oil furnace wasn’t working and we didn’t have any running heat. Every time it goes out, we have no heat this winter. When I submit my claims to American Home Shield, I’ve been doing it online now. I found that doing it online was more efficient. Completion of the claim takes a couple of days when I submit it online. I filed claims over the phone in the beginning, but it takes longer. Their customer service rep seemed really confused and it takes them a long time to get things done. When I do it online, I just click a couple of buttons, then I get texts and emails right away saying things are getting done. AMD Mechanical Contractors came out and our interactions were really professional. They showed up on time when they said they were going to. They came to my house and they’ve been out three times. They’ve always been professional and clean. They did the work, explained what they were doing and they seemed to be thorough.

My American Home Shield warranty is super valuable and I wouldn't go a day without it. Once, my doorbell wasn't working. I electronically filed a claim with them and their website was user-friendly, straight to the point, and easy to navigate. The claim happened during the holidays so there was lapse but by December 27th, the repair company, SouthWinds Electric, LLC, called me right back. The contractor came and we talked about the issue and we went through the steps. He was efficient, explained everything to me and fixed the issue. Now, the doorbell is ringing. American Home Shield is definitely worth the money.

I was replacing the existing thermostat which was an old one, with a Nest. After I filed the claim with AHS, the fellow from Royal AC came in and he was amazing and professional. They checked my AC units and found that my main AC was almost about to die. Come Houston weather, it’s gonna fail so, we ended up replacing it and it has been working nicely.
When I call the 1-800 number of American Home Shield, it’s very difficult to reach any person so, I have to go the online route which is easier. However, you sometimes need to talk to people. You need zero explanation online and sometimes, I need that friendly hand to ask if I need to make a claim or if I can talk to an expert who can say if it was something that I could fix myself. I would love to have that kind of service but that is non-existent. If they have an expert online, I am very handy. I can fix most of the stuff myself and I might not have to call for small issues such as electrical stuff or a faucet breaking which were easy things.

We had two claims. The most recent one was for the oven and it was the longest. It has taken two months to get it repaired. They tried to repair the oven first. They sent the motherboard out and it came back from being repaired with them, so it took some time. It still did not work, so we have a new oven being delivered today. The other claim happened to be a central unit and the motor went bad. We worked out a schedule, they came out, replaced the motor and it’s working fine. There were no problems speaking to the reps from AHS. It’s usually a long wait, but otherwise, beyond that, it usually goes rather quickly. The techs who come have been excellent as well.
The length of time of being without an oven for two months was ridiculous. Still, I now understand the part was being shipped out for repair because they can’t replace it. How they were going to do the work was, they would repair for $300 or they would give me $300. Well, the oven is worth more than that. As it is now, they spent $300 more than they originally would have if they would replace in the very beginning. They sent the part out for repair and then it came back and it still didn’t work. So whoever they used for repair is reliable to us. Even so, I've recommended American Home Shield to my mother and my step-parents.

He was very professional and knew what to look for. He fixed the ref while he was here and it has been working fine since the repair. I recently filed a claim to American Home Shield for a leaky faucet on the outside of the house. I did it on my mobile device and it was relatively easy to do. But an error occurred after I submitted all the information. At the same time, I got a text message that Pipe Doctor was assigned to me and will be scheduling a call with me soon. It was a conflicting message of the system as it said there was a failure but it seemed to work and that someone called us eventually.
Out of all the contractors we have used, Pipe Doctor was the worst so far. The tech said he would come out four times but he has not fixed anything. The claim is still open and AHS called me an hour ago and they are gonna send a different company to evaluate the problem. Some of the contractors that AHS sent had been really good but overall, the majority of them had been lousy. AHS seems to schedule some poor-quality contractors and if you do a Google search or a Yelp review search on the contracting companies, they are always 1-star or 2-star companies.

I called American Home Shield and H&P replaced the heating portion of our central air and also the blower fan motor. It was done in a timely manner. The contractor announced when they would work, they got the work performed, and then they let us know everything was fixed. It has been operating a lot quieter and it doesn’t take as long to heat as it did before. AHS is a great company. My cousin has their insurance also. It’s a necessity to have in case of emergency. That way, you’re only paying the deductible and hopefully, it will be taken care of in a timely manner.
Good morning Larry,
It was a pleasure reading your feedback. I am pleased to hear about how fast the contractors were able to correct the blower motor issue.

I am a reasonable but fed up one. I 100% intend to spread the word.
Original Review: I have had AHS for all of my properties for as long as I can remember. I have had some good experiences BUT the bad outweighs the good in this regard. FIRST of all the UNBELIEVABLE runaround to get to customer service is almost scary! The hold times are absolutely unreasonable. And the last service call I needed was so mishandled. I was even told that the reason they had to deny was only known to a certain department and customers aren't allowed to talk to that department. That is absolutely no exaggeration. I'm currently on hold for 30+ minutes to cancel each of my policies. I will take my business elsewhere. I no longer trust this company.

My gas water heater broke down and has to be replaced. The swap has to be performed by Greenway, but this company only provides low quality gas water heaters. It seems that American Home Shield uses such companies with bad products so you can stay their customer forever. Product brake, you pay more to fix them. Back to my story, in addition, I had to pay out of pocket, $370 for modifications. I asked Greenway if they would consider better quality heaters, but was told that American Home Shield is to decide the brand of the heater. I called the American Home Shield and was told that it is up to Greenway.
At this point I knew all was a scam. I asked American Home Shield for cash out option, and was offered up to $445. What a scam? I had been their customer for 3 years (3 years x 12 months x $60= $2160). Given them a lot of money and could not rely on them for a decent gas heater. I was told by their associate, it is just a business. If you do not like it go away. Also, the American Home Shield charged me $120 for service fee, for what? For doing nothing. My advice, do not go with American Home Shield. They only collect money and when you need them they leave you out. In summation, after paying $ 2160 for 3 years, I will get only $325 ($445-$120).

At the suggestion of my real estate agent, we signed up for a home warranty through AHS. On the first call, they sent someone who was unable to fix my refrigerator because he didn't know what brand it was (I put that info in the comments) - he is the reason they get 2 stars - he came back and fixed it as a favor, but wasn't technically authorized to do the work. The second call: our mini split AC wasn't working - they scheduled with a contractor who completely blew off the appointment, wasting an entire day of my husband's time.
When I called to complain, they INSISTED that I use the same unreliable individual. Well, that contractor eventually showed up (later than agreed upon), and basically told us that the thermostat was 'going' and that there was nothing he could do - we just had to turn the temperature down on the unit. In fairness, the unit did start to kick on - but our bills were significantly higher this past summer. He also hit our basketball hoop with his truck on the way out- he offered to pay, but my husband didn't want to bother with his incompetence any longer. We were then charged the service fee for nothing.
Today, we get a bill for our whole-house dehumidifier repair - when I consulted our home warranty...surprise - that's on the list of things they DON'T cover. I'm not sure why we keep using this service - so far they've been useless- it's $89.00/mo and I would have been better off if I just outright paid people to come fix the issues we have thus far had.
Good evening Chin,
Your concerns are understood regarding your most recent experience to have the heating and air conditioner system serviced. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the issue resolved.

I called in and told them what was going on, and they told me somebody will be in contact with me within 24 hours. Not having heat in a 20-degree weather should have told them they should put somebody out here immediately. But it was two and a half days before a tech came out and fixed it. So, it was a long time to do with a 20-degree weather. But the tech was great. He had to do some troubleshooting. It was cold and he didn’t complain. He fixed the issue and everything turned out wonderfully.
Other than that, I want American Home Shield to be more upfront. If I call in and say I have a problem, they need to either tell me if it’s covered or not and not make me wait till a service man comes out, submit the claim, and they’d call me a few days later saying it’s not covered. That’s not okay. They should not prolong it because when things go wrong, it needs to get fixed immediately. I’ve had two service calls within the last few months, in my whole time with AHS, and the first one was a total failure on their part, and the second one was a total success. I’m a realtor and I sell home warranties as well. American Home Shield is one of the more expensive ones and I don't like that about them. They have one of the higher service fees, too. But otherwise, on a personal level, we have always been pleased with them. We have been with American Home Shield since we bought this house in 1998, so we’ve spent a lot of money keeping this warranty. We’ve also used it a number of times.
When we bought our house, it was two years old and our first claim back then was on the oven. Only being two years old, the heating element went out in the oven and you wouldn’t think something that new would suffer a problem like that, but we saw the value in the repair then. Our air conditioner has been replaced as well and they also came out when the hot water heater went. They also helped us when we had an issue with the washing machine, so it’s been good to have the warranty when a problem arose and we’re glad to have it. We will keep it.
Recently, we had an issue with our well pump. We submitted a claim with AHS and unfortunately, this happened on Saturday of Christmas weekend. We were on the phone for a while to speak to someone about the claim then they said that we could always go online, so we did that. Once we put the order in online, we quickly got a response by text message that a plumbing company had been assigned to us and that they would reach out to us within 24 hours. But the next thing I realized was it said within the next 24 business hours. That meant that Saturday & Sunday were not business days and Monday was Christmas, which meant that we were gonna go for days without water.
I called C&P, the plumbing company, and they said that they’d speak to a technician and see if they could get somebody out. But then they said that no technician was on duty that evening and that nobody would be working the next day since they’d be closed on Sunday. I reported all this back to American Home Shield and they already looked for other plumbing companies but everybody was closing down for the holiday. So, it wasn’t like AHS just dropped the ball on our laps and that was a good thing. Eventually, they told us that if we wanted to go outside and pay for the repair, they would reimburse us up to $1,500 but that we would still have to pay the $75 fee. That didn’t sit well with me.
So, we just decided to make the best of it over the weekend. We bought a gazillion gallons of water and we made it work. Then we found out that American Home Shield cancelled our request for service. So, we kinda went back and forth with them asking why they did that. That was the fly in the ointment and we were dismayed about it. I personally made sure to follow up with the plumbing company repeatedly to let them know that when they come back to work, we needed them, and I didn’t feel like that was out of line. But I don’t think American Home Shield was responsible for every last thing. And beyond that, C&P got in touch with us early in the morning the day after Christmas and they were right out. They also said they had a long line of people to see.
As it turned out, the problem was with our well pump motor. However, they couldn't do anything about it, so they wound up repairing the next day. They came to check it and make sure. So, someone else had to come the next day and we were still without water and it was Wednesday when we finally got it back. They had to replace the well pump motor and that was taken care of. We learned a lot from that experience and it was a good survival exercise. The problem was fixed and C&P's tech was very good. My husband was with him while this was going on and he learned a lot about the well system itself. C&P has serviced us before and we have never had an issue with them. The gentleman’s name was Jack and he founded C&P Plumbing. My husband really thought a lot of him and his knowledge.

Having a warranty on your property is very valuable. It puts you at ease really because being a homeowner, and I’m relatively a new homeowner, it's a very worrisome thing to think something big will break and you won’t be able to pay for it. So having a warranty gives you a little extra security. One time, my AC was not coming on at all and I don’t live without AC. So I put in a claim online and it was fairly easy. The website was very user-friendly and it shot me out a vendor within 20 minutes. I called Express Heating & Air Conditioning Services and they were able to get me somebody out the next day, which is pretty unheard of. Plus he was on time and professional.
He asked me what the problem was and I told him. He took a look at the monitor downstairs but he said that was not it. Then he asked me where the attic was and he went up there. He checked that out and then the AC came back on. But he still went outside and checked the condenser and my Freon levels. He was very nice and the AC has been perfect since then.

But it would’ve been helpful had they not told me that someone would be calling me because then I wouldn’t be waiting and I might have chosen another avenue. But once the contractor came out, everything was fine. Immediate Response Plumbing & Rooter Service called and said when they were coming, and they were there in that period of time. They were definitely professional and they took care of the problem right away. They changed out the thermostat and said if that doesn’t solve the issue, we would need to call back. But so far, it has been fine.

We had another company initially when we bought the house and then we switched over to American Home Shield. We've been with them for a while now and I really have been very satisfied with them. I appreciate them. When I had a water leak under my sink, I called in to submit the claim and the experience was great. I got a call from Swat immediately and the contractor that came out was great as well. American Home Shield has sent plumbers out before and I really like to keep these guys. They were efficient and very professional, and they fixed the problem.

I’m very dissatisfied right now. I have had American Home Shield for years and I was referring them to a lot of people. But my stuff started getting messed up for the last month or so, and I’m not gonna refer them anymore. The first contractor American Home Shield sent was Aaron and they were supposed to come out but there was a lot of different cancellations on their part. I was sitting here and I was not getting a call back. Then I would call or they would be calling to come after the time that they were scheduled.
One time, the schedule changed from 8:00 in the morning to 12:00 because the plumber said he had a basement that was flooded. It took precedence over my leak. Then it wasn’t rescheduled. The last time I talked with them, they called and gave me to another plumber. At that point, it had been a few weeks of me just trying to get a leak fixed in the sewage pipe from my toilet. I was getting ready to call to do the same thing with American Home Shield.
Reynolds Heating came today to finish the work that was supposed to be done. But I got a thing saying that their work had already been completed. The worse thing about that is that I had another heating company that came out. I had the leaky pipe and then the cylinder on my boiler that they replaced started leaking. Reynolds came out and said that they had to fix it but they had to do the whole kit. But you only get $1,500. The other company used $1,100 and Reynolds would get $400. I then had to give Reynolds $233 to fix the same stuff that the previous people had done. The previous people couldn't come back because American Home Shield wouldn’t send them back.
I’m very unhappy because I didn’t feel like I should’ve had to pay for a problem that a company had come out to fix. Just because another company came, American Home Shield treated it like a brand new claim. I also couldn't get through to American Home Shield to make any complaint to do anything. One time, I waited for about 35 minutes on the phone just to get through to a representative. But a representative actually called and left a message on my voicemail about me having to pay the $233.
Good morning Vanessa,
I understand your concerns regarding your experience with the HVAC company and the non covered cost to complete the repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and address the concerns.

My water source heat pump was no longer heating nor cooling so I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Their response was timely but American Home Shield identified a vendor who was unresponsive and when I eventually communicated with the vendor directly, they did not realize that their company had a contract with American Home Shield. They were unhappy about the pricing and I told them that it was between them and AHS. The first vendor was not expecting to get the assignment from AHS and was up to speed on what was to be expected of their terms. That frustrated me.
Then, Efficiency Air was sent. I have worked with them before and the three times they have been out, their service was very good. But on this occasion, I was low on Freon and so there may be a leak. The problem also existed a year ago and the contractor did not know if there was a leak or not but he also put some sealants into the gas mix to try to address if there was. The first repair was very complicated. He had to identify and obtain the part then, he came back very quickly the next day. So far, the heat pump is working great since the repair. I’m very satisfied with Efficiency Air and I recommend them to all of the homeowners in our condominium building. I also recommend that people get insurance like American Home Shield.

My American Home Shield warranty puts me at peace because I just bought the house. So it's good to know that if something goes wrong, I'm not gonna pay more than the deductible for the most part. I filed a claim on their website for my garage door that wouldn't open. Working through their website was simple. It took them three days to get a contractor out, but it was over the holidays, so it was a little different. The contractor was great. He was very friendly and professional, and he asked me what was wrong with the garage door, and then he took a closer look at it and was able to describe the problem to me and what needed to be fixed on it. The springs were broken, something else on the side had snapped, and then I also had a new keypad thing set up. Everything’s been working since he left. It made the operations in my home easier. I could use my garage again.

I usually submit my claims to American Home Shield online and they get out there within 24 hours. It's a very, very easy process. I haven't had any bad interactions with contractors since I've moved over to American Home Shield. The last contractor that showed up to check on the furnace was the best one that I've ever had. The only thing that I noticed with American Home Shield is that there are some things that are not covered in their contract, but I had with my previous home warranty company. An example of this is I had a spring break on a garage door. When I was in with my previous home warranty company, that was covered under warranty, but in America Home Shield's contract, it's not covered.

We had a bad experience with not only American Home Shield but with the contractor that they sent out, and American Home Shield continued to pass us around from person to person and gave us incorrect information and wrong telephone numbers repeatedly. We were without our furnace for six weeks and without heat in December, so that was significant. But we finally got to speak with someone and she took care of it. We ended up having to have another contractor come out, and then it was fixed within four days. We've had a few call-outs since then and everything has been great. I went online recently and submitted a claim to American Home Shield when we had a burner not working on our stove. They sent NorCal Repair Services and the tech who came out fixed the burner. He was very prompt, professional, explained what was wrong with it and, if it happened again, how to fix it in an easy way.

I called American Home Shield when my heat was cutting off. AHS sent Bob Jones Heating & Energy and their guy put a fan in. When we tried to light it, it was lit. It didn’t light right away, though. It took five times. The guy then came and looked at it again. He told me I have to keep cutting it on a certain way but I couldn’t go with that because there was no heat coming. Every 20 minutes, the guy kept trying to cut it on but it kept cutting off so I had no heat. The guy who came explained what he was doing. Now, I have heat.

There was a leak so I filed a claim online and the contractor that AHS sent out replaced the garbage disposal. My interaction with the contractor was good. Later on, there was a little leak and the contractor came back, checked it out and fixed it. He replaced the drain in the sink. Everything was great. Having a home warranty has been very valuable to me. I don’t have to fix the problem myself.

I filed an online claim with American Home Shield for my pool pumps and it was a very easy process. The guy who owns and runs Parrothead Pools came and he was a really nice man. He was very knowledgeable and he explained everything along the way. The first motor he had was defective, and I saw the startled look on his face. Obviously, it wasn’t his fault. He had to put in a different three-quarter horsepower motor and did a good job. The unit has been up and running and I'm very pleased. American Home Shield was recommended to me by the guy that I bought the house from and I'd recommend them as well.

So far, I've only submitted two claims with American Home Shield. I submitted the first claim on the computer and the most recent one, which was for a dishwasher repair, was filed over the phone. The automated claim over the phone was quick and a lot easier than the computer one. On the computer, there was a long wait time until I heard from the contractor that was assigned to the job. These automated phone system, when requesting a repair, is streamlined. I know that trying to speak with a customer service representative isn't always the easiest with wait times. But other than that, it has been a good experience so far.
The contractor that was sent out was phenomenal and the receptionist on behalf of the contracting company was extremely transparent. They called right away just to get general information about the products that I called about. They sent someone out for an initial assessment, and then followed up later that day letting me know that a needed part was to be ordered. It was diagnosed that the dishwasher needed a new drain pump. They called a couple days later, when the part arrived, to schedule. They were on time, professional and great. Since the repair, the dishwasher has been working how it should.

When I had a claim with AHS for my dishwasher, I submitted it online and it was very easy. The contractor that first came out said they needed to order parts, so they ordered parts. Then somebody came in and put them in. But when they did it blew a wiring harness so they needed to order another one, and then they couldn’t find one. After 30 days they authorized purchasing a new dishwasher. After describing my dishwasher I picked one that I liked and they would pay a certain amount and I would have to pay the balance or I could get cash. I chose the one that they recommended. It was almost identical, just a newer model of the one I had.

I called American Home Shield and asked for a repairman for the garage door. Every time I press the buttons, the garage door wouldn’t go up. And if I went up, then I couldn’t get it back down, that I had to push it back down and then it wouldn’t go back up again. So, it was locked and it wouldn’t move at all. The claims rep that I talked to was professional and said that the contractor would call in 24 hours. The contractor called before that and made the appointment. They even came out on New Year’s Day to fix it, which I was really surprised that they would work on that day.
The repairman was very professional. He explained everything that he was doing. He told me what was wrong with the garage thing that they had to replace the whole railing system because the chains weren't moving. So, he explained it to me. After he finished, he suggested that I would get oil to oil the hinges, which I never knew about. He said it would make the garage door last longer. He oiled the hinges, and then I went on and purchased the oil for the hinges. If I ever had to have someone come back out for the garage, I would want him and his company to come back. I was very satisfied with them. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a while now, and this was the best experience out of all the contractors that ever came out.
The only problem that I ever had with American Home Shield was with the dryer. We had to go out and purchase a brand new dryer after all the time that the contractor came out and tried to fix it. They were never able to fix it and they came out about five times. I even had to purchase the tube that goes up underneath the house because they told me that was the problem. But evidently, that wasn’t the problem. I spent $800 for a brand new tube, but we still had to go purchase a brand new dryer. So, this was the only experience that I used American Home Shield that I wasn’t satisfied with.

American Home Shield was great and we were grateful to have the insurance plan built in when we bought the house. If you have the option of having this as part of your agreement when you buy a home and if the homeowner will pay for it, which our homeowner did, it’s a great benefit. It gives you a year to every season and you can call them to fix anything that doesn’t work right. Recently, our furnace was cycling on and off. It would heat the house when needed but it was coming on randomly to blow cold air. AHS sent out the Valley people who said that it needed a new part. They ordered it and it took a week. Then, they came back and put it in. We also had a problem with the hot water heater and the contractor that AHS sent out did a good job. They replaced the part and now, we have hot water all the time.
We pay a fee when we use AHS and that’s fine. This is worth having someone come out because I’m willing to pay $75 for this. If they had to come out to fix our furnace, and they couldn’t, we would have gotten a new furnace. The same with the hot water heater and anything that’s covered. Ours just happened to cover everything so, it’s great. However, AHS would ask for a credit card so they could charge it once the person comes out.
I wasn’t comfortable with that because what if somebody comes out and they don’t really follow through, and yet, they charge AHS, who in turn, hits our credit card. Then, we never get the work done because somebody else drops the ball. Now, we would have to go and try to get our money back. We have to do the work disputing it. So, I told them no. I would pay for it after the work was done because it shouldn’t be an inconvenience for me. They were fine with it and so, after the work was done, we paid it. It’s just protecting your own life. I don’t need any more stress and it would just be a stressor to have to deal with.

I filed a claim regarding a heater over the phone and it was relatively easy. The first contractor AHS sent was super nice, but he could not thoroughly explore the problem. I had to call AHS and get a different contractor. They were amazing and excellent. They would be my air conditioning people. They gave me a lot of information, taught me how to use it and what things I should look for. They even took the extra time to look over everything and then made sure I wouldn't have any other problem.
The home warranty can sometimes seem misleading. It feels like if something breaks or something goes wrong after you buy the house, it will be fixed or taken care of, like with insurance. But there are so many loopholes in the contract that it doesn't really feel like insurance. The heater was recalled and because of that, AHS won't do anything to fix it. So now, we don't have a heater. But I would still recommend American Home Shield.

We bought the house. Everything seemed to be fine, so we closed. It was September and we live in California, so the weather was somewhat good. But the minute I turned the heater on, I realized that it was blowing out cold air instead of hot air. So I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They charged me the $75 upfront and the tech they sent out got here three days later. He was an hour late. He got here at 7 o'clock pm on a Friday and he was here for a half hour. He took out the motor of the heating unit and he said that he had to order the parts, and that he would be back when it came in to finish the job. But I never heard anything ever again.
A week later, I called the contracting company directly and their rep said that the part was still on order. I waited another week and called, and she said the same thing. Then I got a call about five days later. She said that the part was in and asked if I would I be home, which I would be, and she gave me an eight-hour window. She called me two hours later and said that the tech would be coming just to drop off my old motor because they don't work on my type of furnace. When the tech came back out, however, it was a different guy. He just dropped off my old motor in my garage and he didn't put it back. He told me to call AHS to send somebody else out, which I did.
My furnace, however, has a three-speed motor, which not everybody knows how to work on. It's a 98% high-efficiency furnace, and the guy that was sent out wasn't certified to work on it so he couldn't fix it. When I tried to explain that to AHS, they wouldn't listen to me, and so I became very enraged. So long story short, I had no heat for three months. Nevertheless, AHS ended up replacing the entire heater. There were multiple things wrong with it and I had to come out of pocket.
So many things have gone wrong, and I don't really have patience anymore because it was the heater. It's all been bad from the time that I moved in and I've filed four claims in a row. My washing machine and pool pump went out. The toilet upstairs isn't working, there's a hole in my ceiling and the Sheetrock, and the plumber that came out from AHS was not good. I'm still dealing with the washing machine. The contractor seemed to be okay, and they're getting parts. But I never realized that I actually wash clothes every single day. I had the easiest experience, however, when I filed a claim for a spa issue. The motor was out and Arctic Blue came out. I told the gentleman that I have a pool as well. I believed the bearings were going out, but he said they were dead. He told me to order the motor and he would be back in a few days. The gentleman came at 3:00 on a Friday and by Monday, he was back and the motor was changed.
What AHS could do better, going forward, is start working with outfits that actually have good reviews and customer service because other than the last people who came and fixed the heater, every single person that AHS has sent out here have horrible reviews on Yelp. The people who fixed the heater were the only ones who had a good review.
Maybe I'm old school, but when you tell me that you're gonna be here in the window of four hours, like between 12:00 and 4:00, and you're not here at 4:00, then maybe I'm crazy because I expect either a call or a text saying, "Hey, I'm running behind." With the plumbing issue, I called and asked the rep if the contractor was coming or not. She said yes, but he was in traffic and was running late. It was 5 o’clock and somebody could have let me know. Then he arrived, and I asked him if he was gonna pull up the toilet and check the collar. He told me it wasn't called the collar. It was called the wax ring. He told me that I was argumentative and that he was going to leave. Then he flushed my toilet and left.
Everybody gets insurance for a reason but at that certain point, my time and my health are worth something too. When AHS let me be without heat during October, November and December, it was not a good thing. I pay them, so I expect them to take care of me. If I would have called the company, I wouldn't have waited three months. But I asked to speak to managers multiple times and not one ever called me back.
Hello, Lisa. I have emailed with Mr. Ramos. He advised that the issue has been resolved. Thank you.

My American Home Shield experience has been great. I like the automated system that they have in place and how they follow up with text messages, keeping you updated on whether the technician is coming and when are they are coming. And the website is very friendly. But when I had to call and talk to them to clarify things, there was a long wait time. They should pick up the phone a little quicker. Anything else is great though. The technicians that come over do their best. I also like that AHS takes my money upfront for the visitation. They charge $100. With other companies, the technician comes and wants the $100, but then he may not follow up, which is a big headache. And that’s not the case with AHS.

We originally placed a service request on 12/7 for our broken hot water heater. The part came in, but when the technician called on 12/27 to schedule a time to put the part in, they realized the wrong water heater had been ordered by AHS. They informed AHS of the incorrect equipment on 12/27. We have spent all day today (1/2) trying to find out when we are going to get the hot water heater in, we were told it had just been ordered today. Well, that is what we were told when we reached out to AHS on Twitter. When we finally got through to a phone representative (after being hung up on 3 times when we were put on eternal hold). We were told a part had not been ordered, they didn't know when it would be and had no idea when we would get our hot water heater replaced. They use a scammer plumbing company to say that so they didnt have to pay out. They say K and S Plumbing is only company I can use in the whole state of Al. What a freakin' joke.
Read their reviews for a good laugh. Every review says they need to upgrade. I've had American Home Shield for some time now, but I canceled on the 31st of December because I'm tired of the horrible service. It is always hard to get through any time I've called to use them. I'm not a person who wants to go on the internet and call. I like to do it the old way and get someone, however, I'm always on hold for 45 minutes or longer. It always has been like that, but I just dealt with it. The straw that broke the camel back for me was I called in and I asked the young lady that my doorbell was not working. When I'm inside my home, I don’t hear it ringing. I can't answer it and pick up. The rep said that they could send someone out, but I told her to hold on and that I needed to make sure that it was covered. She said that it was covered. She asked if I wanted to pay that time or 48 hours, and I said that I would pay that time.
When the tech came out, I answered the door. He called to say he was there because I don't hear the doorbell ringing inside. He stepped in and said that they don’t work on doorbells with an intercom. I said that I asked AHS, but he said that nobody works on that kind anymore and that it was old school. I told him to let me call another company and he left. I called AHS and I told the gentleman that I was upset that I had to wait around for the call and to find out that the insurance company was not covering the claim for the doorbell. I said that I was calling for a supervisor, but he said that there was no supervisor around that day. I also said that I needed to speak to someone because I should not have to pay a $75 trade fee and that when he goes back and listen, he would see that I asked the question.
He said, "Ma'am, it's in your policy. You should have gone back and looked at it." I said that I was not gonna pull out my policy and put glasses on and try to read through, and that is why I asked the question when I called. They were supposed to be educated when to say it is not covered. When they answered, they should have said that the doorbell in our house was not gonna be covered, but the young lady I spoke to said it was covered. The gentleman said no and that I had to pay the trade fee.
I hung up because they had a long wait and they said they would call me back through the computer. I put it in for them to call me back and when they ended up calling back, I told them I was on hold calling them back and I didn’t think that they were gonna actually call me back. I told the gentleman what I previously said and he said that if they were gonna waive the trade fee, there was nothing he can do. I said to him that they were trying to handle it instead of getting a supervisor and letting them listen to the message, so they can make the perfect decision to please me, the customer. I've been with AHS too long. I don’t use the service, but I pay.
I said, "And you're gonna tell me because this one mistake, it can't go further than me and you or the other gentleman?" I was pissed off and I said that I refuse that ** and that I was not gonna deal with it. He said that if I cursed again, he was gonna hang up. I said that he needed to understand that I was so upset and I disliked the service, but I kept the service with the company, but I was getting the wrong information. I also said that I felt like they were screwing me. I said again that I called and they told me that it was covered, but the tech walked in and immediately said it was not covered. To me, I was pimped so they can make money at the end of the year and it was ** up. Then, he hung up the phone.
I called back and that's when I let the service call me. When I ended up getting someone, I explained to him and he said there was nothing he can do. I said, "That's okay. It's something that I can do. Cancel the service. I pay you guys $600 a year. You wanna lose $600 a year to fight over the $75. If they listen to the system and see what happens, they would see that the young lady needed to be educated to listen and to look at the system to make sure that the question she was answering was correct.
I said that I would leave and that I would go with someone else and I would pay it down. At least, I would give someone else a fair chance. I couldn't stay with AHS as a company. When I ask them a question, they give me the wrong information, and it costs me money because they lie to me. They were not even gonna go back and listen. The case was just closed after two people. It was not worth my while and I wasn’t happy with the service anyway. Since they switched over to the new company, the service has been like **. I was glad it was being recorded so they can see. I told them that it was not about the money. I have money. I couldn't continue to pay for something that I haven't been happy with and they truly made me not happy after that, so I canceled. AHS sucks. They are losing a great customer and they need to know that. They get this because that's what they've been giving to me.

Our microwave went out and American Home Shield replaced a part. But there was more to it. The sensor cool part that was kept went out again. A new company came out, checked it out and said, "No, it seems to be fine." They got it working and when they came out the second time, they found the problem. They've ordered the parts and they should be in this week. They're gonna come and replace those. That went on for about three weeks. So, we didn't have a microwave. It was inconvenient but it was not a major issue. The technicians were great. They were very friendly, very professional and really took their time to find the problem. I used AHS or another warranty when I was in California. And so far, the service here in Texas has been 100% better. AHS has been great. They followed up and I was very pleased. I was really hesitant about getting a warranty, but I'm really glad we did. It all worked out and I'd recommend AHS very much.

I have had American Home Shield for about six months and submitting claims with them has been normally good. My realtor let me know they were very good. They say yes to everything and they react. My recent experience with them was really good, however, the second time that I requested them, they failed completely. When I filed a claim on the day that I requested service, two or three days prior to Thanksgiving, they didn’t even call back. They couldn't arrange with any company to help me with my dryer, so I had to spend money on it. It was terrible because I have a tenant and people claimed they needed it.
Their customer service said that I could submit a claim and send them the receipt of what I spent because they were going to reimburse it, but it never came back. They never called and they never said anything. It has been more than a month now and they could never help me. I called them two times and they just said that they needed authorization from the supervisor, then the manager. I said it was gonna take time and that it was fine, but I have not gotten a check in the mail. Airboss Mechanical came out for the second claim and each one of them was great. However, it was terrible when the refrigerator wasn't working properly. My child was diagnosed with ADHD, so I had his meds there. I let AHS know, but they avoided and they didn’t care about it.

When my microwave wasn’t working anymore, I called it in. The rep was very nice but it took a long time, almost an hour, for them to come to the phone. I actually put the phone on hold, took a shower, left it on speaker, and got off the shower, and they still hadn’t come. The wait time on American Home Shield was ridiculous. But once they actually came to the phone, it was fast.
When they finally took the claim, the contractor came the next day. He was very nice, neat and professional. He told me everything, step-by-step. He even put little things on his feet. He had a blanket. The microwave is operating wonderfully now. I love American Home Shield. They all do excellent and I wouldn’t do without them. We built the house nine years ago and that’s how long I’ve been having them. You gotta get AHS.

I would have rather talked to someone so I can explain to them what was going on and then they could better direct me. I ended up calling the people who came out and explained the issue to them. They were friendly and knowledgeable. They went into the attic and the techs said I had a whole bunch of new parts. The system was fixed before we moved in, but it was disconnected so it never worked. They were done in 20 minutes and now the system is working fine.

We've been satisfied with American Home Shield. Once, we had to have somebody come fix our furnace. I filed an online claim for that and the process took me a couple of minutes. I do it like that because I don't have to get a hold of anybody and I could just go enter my information. Also, I can do it whenever I want that way. I had a leak in the water line that supplies the water to the icemaker and the icemaker also was getting water in the gear mechanism. I also had an ice build-up in one of the drawers of my freezer that I couldn't seem to get to go away. I filed an online claim to American Home Shield and the process had been easy. It didn't ask for a ton of information and that was the only thing that I didn't especially like. You just pick and the system doesn't really go in and ask what's going on. I had a wiring issue with the thermostat six months ago and they sent out a plumber when it was actually an electrician that should've come out. So, that was delayed that way. If I'd be given a spot to explain what was happening, I would've gotten the right person the first time around.
The contractors, all three of them, have been great. However, the plumber couldn't do anything because it was for an electrician to take care of. It took the electrician guy quite a while to figure out what the issue was and had to snake in a wire and get approval from American Home Shield. Nonetheless, they did a great job. The appliance guy that came in for the fridge was fantastic too. He was gone in less than an hour and had to order a new icemaker. He came back and put that in. Once he got that, it took him 10 minutes. They've been very professional and they've done a good job.

I contacted American Home Shield when my garage door wouldn't open. They identified the company that would come out and repair the garage door opener. When the contractor got here, he spent about 10 minutes updating the control panel of the garage door opener. After he completed that, he left, but the garage door still wasn't opening properly because one of the wires had come out. I called him back, and he came back immediately and fixed it. Everything has been working perfect since then. The contractor was very personable. He was fantastic. Having the home warranty is extremely valuable because I wanna be able to contact one source to identify and fix some of the problems that I have across my entire house. I'll certainly recommend American Home Shield. It's been an investment that's worth the money.

I called a claim in with American Home Shield and I spoke with a really nice representative. The contractor from Patco Electrical was great. He came out and checked my fuse box to make sure everything was okay. One of them was blown. I didn’t have any fuses on hand. She told me that they would leave me on the books for a little while and that she would call back to check with me and if the heater was not working at that time, they would get somebody out right away.
She kept on top of things and called me back when she said she would. And then, two gentlemen came and replaced the thermostat. Now, the heater has been working like a charm. The techs were personable and did their job. They were great from start to finish, with the contact with the insurance company to the person who answered the phone. Everything went fine. When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I like to call in. I don't like to do it online. The first time I talked to somebody about a toilet leak, I made an appointment, but then, I remember that I was leaving out on vacation. So I called back and talked to a second person. Although there was a little language barrier, we got through and they fixed me up. They made sure they let whoever's gonna come out know that I wasn't gonna be back until the afternoon of the 26th.
The day when the contractor was supposed to arrive, I called that morning and left a message. They called back in a different number. So, I had to call them back again and a lady answered the phone, and she got my appointment out the next day. And then when the contractor came, he called first and told me that he was in the area. He asked if it was okay for him to come over, which I said yeah. When he got here, he asked what was going on. I explained to him and took him to my bathroom, and he assessed the situation.
Once he found out what it was, he came and showed me what it was. Then he said he had to go out in the car to get approval from AHS to do the work. When he came back, he explained that AHS didn't cover the caulking and I would have to pay for that on my own if I wanted it. At that time, I've been sick for a week and a half, so I told him to go ahead and do the caulking. When he was done, he showed me some of the areas that whoever put the toilet in, there was some error.
But that was the first time I really had with the bowl part of the toilet, and I've been here for 14 years. He showed me which part he was gonna put in, then he went ahead and put it in. Then he caulked it. He explained how long I had to wait before I could actually sit on the toilet. And then I paid him. Since the repair, the toilet has been operating well. Although, it almost looks like it's wet down there, leaking out, and I touch to make sure it's not leaking. Other than that, the contractor gives you a two-hour window and you had to take off of work for all of that. But since the contractor came for us at the beginning, it was no problem.

This was on Thursday before New Year’s Eve and I told them that I really needed my kitchen sink before then. So, they were good about getting me somebody else and getting it expedited with 5 Star Air Quality. The tech who came out was terrific. He analyzed the problem, found it, and corrected it within an hour.
However, American Home Shield said that they would cancel the appointment with the first company as soon as the second one was scheduled and they didn’t. The toilet paper won't flush without getting caught into the pipe. When the contractor came out, they said that the reason why there was evidently a pipe that was broken was that some tree roots have grown into the pipe. They told me what was going on, and that I gotta get American Home Shield. I called my own plumber and had to pay him $275 to snake the line and confirm what the contractor told me since they never confirm anything. I am gonna call them when I have time. They need to give me my damn money back since they didn't do anything for me.
When the first plumber came out, I told him that before he goes to that house, which is a rental property, I needed him to call me back so I could instruct him on everything that needs to be done. But he never called me. My tenants called back and said that he left an invoice, and the invoice couldn't be understood. They don't take the job seriously. All they care about is getting in and out. It's leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Even if it's not covered by AHS, I would think that the plumbers that came out would say, "Ma'am, this is not covered by American Home Shield. However, if you need this to be done, we can charge you." But they did nothing and left me hanging!
I'm paying for AHS so I called them. They put me on hold forever because I was trying to find out what was the insurance that I'm paying for going to replace. However, I'm thinking about canceling AHS because this is the second plumber that I had. Every time they came out, they told me the same thing, but nobody resolved anything. What is the point of me paying for somebody to come out and do nothing? Also, if the home warranty is not gonna cover what they say they would, then what's the point of having a home warranty? AHS almost seems like a racket. I don't need to pay them $50 a month for somebody to come out and unclog the drain. If I have a pipe that's broken, they should cover the pipe.

There was a puddle underneath the washing machine so I called American Home Shield. They sent out an appliance tech who said the issue was not the washing machine but the drain and that I would need to call a plumber. So American Home Shield got a plumber to come out but one plumber quoted this really high price. American Home Shield sent out another plumbing company to get a quote and that was Beck Plumbing MTC. They came out and gave me a much lower quote. Then they went ahead and fixed the drain issue.
Making an initial claim with American Home Shield is pretty easy. I've done it online and on the phone with the automatic system. But when you try to call in to talk to somebody it’s very difficult. For the claim I had, someone had to convert it from an appliance issue to a plumbing issue, and that was a challenge. With one phone call I made, it took me 30 minutes to get a hold of one person but they couldn’t help. Then it was another 30 minutes to get a hold of somebody who could help with one of my issues. But I’ve also been trying to get a receipt from them and that rep couldn’t help me with that. So they transferred me someplace else and I was on hold for another 30 minutes. Then it went to voice mail and I haven’t heard back since. That was a frustrating phone call. They don’t have a chat function on their website and there’s no real way to email them apparently. It would be nice to be able to contact them more easily.
The contractors seemed fine though. Everybody was very cordial and friendly, and they seemed to know what they were doing. They would report back to Home Shield and once they've done that, the Home Shield people would call me and let me know what was going on. That has happened at least once or twice and those interactions went fine.
