I just switched to American Home Shield. I was with another company. I used to have American Home Shield in the past when I lived in California, and they were great. I’m very happy to be back with them. I had a technician here when we had problems with the toilet and the flushing, and the experience was positive. He fixed the problems, and he was very professional and efficient.

When I had to contact American Home Shield to fix a leak in the kitchen, I did it over the phone. Submitting a claim is easy and the contractor was responsive. They managed to get in the same day and took care of the problem right away. We were very happy. Since the repair, everything's working very well. Every time I've used AHS, the contractors have gotten the job done the first time. We've been pleased with the responses.

In the heat, we would turn the air conditioner on and it just ran and ran. It would get up the temperature, but it would never shut off. So, we called American Home Shield to have them check it out and they took down the information and sent me a text that they were sending Total Air Care out. Total Air Care responded well and was very courteous. They looked at the unit and ended up adding a pound to it. So, on top of the $75 deductible from American Home Shield, we ended up paying them $75 for a pound of Freon. American Home Shield is a great product and it protects the consumer and their home.

We had a technician come out and help us repair a dishwasher. To submit the claim with American Home Shield, we spoke to a representative who had us get in touch with somebody at the contractor's company. Ollie, the technician who came out to do the work, is a nice gentleman. He was very good and he did a wonderful job. He told us to give him a callback if we had any concerns or problems in the future. Everything has been working great ever since the repair. I would definitely refer AHS and Ollie as well if he is still with them.

We thought we had a bad problem with our furnace because the pilot light was out. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, it didn't take very long for someone to respond. The contractor they sent out was very professional. And while he got the pilot light lit, I wish he could have left us some information about how he did light it because I keep trying to and my husband too, but we were unable to light it. Nevertheless, the furnace performed very well after it was relit so I had a good experience with American Home Shield.

I had a garbage disposal unit that went out and my experience in submitting a claim to American Home Shield wasn’t good. They sent me a plumber from B & G Rooter who said I needed to have a dishwasher with my garbage disposal since it was in the California code. I knew that wasn’t right because you don’t have to have a dishwasher. American Home Shield then called and said they denied my claim because I needed a dishwasher. I told the rep it wasn't right, but he didn't want to hear it because he heard it from the first plumber. He even had an attitude about it. Eventually, AHS sent another plumber, and the second plumber said the first plumber didn’t even know what he was talking about. The second company that came over was good, and the guy whose name is Norris was good as well. Other than that, the service fee is a little high.

Our backup gas furnace for the basement, the number two unit, wasn't starting so I called American Home Shield and filed a claim. I like submitting claims online because I can just go in, do it, and AHS will respond quickly, but I use the over-the-phone option as a backup if there’s something I can’t get done online for some reason or if I don't receive any answer. AHS sent Rapp's Heating and AC and the tech wasn't able to get the unit fixed as it needed a replacement board. What he did instead was he temporarily set the unit up so that when we put in emergency heat - when the thermostat says, “It’s time to get warm” - it would automatically turn on. It took about a week to get the part and the guy came and replaced control board so that it would be part of the smart system to turn on when and if it needed to.

I had an issue with American Home Shield. When I phoned to resolve issue, I was on hold for 21 minutes then I hung up. Phoned two hours later and was on hold for 25 minutes before I finally hung up. I tried yet a third time later that same day and I was on hold for 32 minutes, then I hung up! I never did speak with anyone who could resolve my issue. I went to their website and tried to chat, but each time I got a pop up that said, "Currently all representatives are busy". I got that pop up over and over again over a period of one hour. Then I thought I would email however they do not provide an email address to contact customer service. Not a good company to do business with. Choose another home warranty company or you will regret it someday. Just saying... They are really bad.

Item number two, my stove cooktop, I have contacted and contacted AHS for almost two months, and to date no results. They have sent two companies to my home and both of them have deemed it not repairable. AHS representatives continuously tell me someone will contact me within 24-48 hours, I always have had to call them back. They put me on hold and say they are contacting the repair company, and when they get back to me the reply every time is that they could not contact the repair company. It was cold and I turned on the heat, and it would never trigger on. You could hear the furnace trying to start, but it would never trip to blow hot air. So I gave American Home Shield a call and I sort of had an idea what it might have been, so I told them that on the phone. I wasn't able to do the claim online. It said I had an outstanding balance of $75 from a previous one where I had filed a claim and no one ever showed up. And the individual kept calling and delaying, so I just called Home Shield back and said, "Just cancel it.” And so, that ended up staying on. So, I couldn't do it online like I wanted to. I had to call and get it corrected for a second time over the phone. That probably was a negative to figure in these scheme of things, but everyone I talked to has always gotten things done quickly and courteously.

I submitted the claim late at night and A-US reached out via a call between 8:00 and 9:00 in the next morning. The contractor a nice guy. He was courteous and got all the things you hope for someone coming in to your house. He stopped by the shop, pick up a couple of things and it happened to be the right thing that he picked up. And he was in and out quickly. The igniter within the furnace was out, so he replaced that and it got up and running again. I'm happy overall with American Home Shield's service.

We've had great experience with American Home Shield. They have been very responsive and they send good people. They’ve been very clear over the phone on what my daughter has to pay. She renewed the contract which was a good sign that she's very happy with the service. There was a leak under my daughter's sink and there was a problem with her dishwasher. AHS's contractor came and they did something. When they left the first time, the thing wasn’t quite attached as well as it should. She had them back out to fix that and they fixed it perfectly the second time. The other thing was, there was a leak inside the valve in the shower. They had to install a new valve and they opened up the wall on the other side and fixed it. They were great. They were very neat and very clean. The plumber couldn’t have been nicer. Having American Home Shield is a good thing to do. It gives us peace of mind.

Our garbage disposal went out, and I called the number that was in our contract and set it up that way. American Home Shield told me that ASAP would be giving me a call, and ASAP did within two hours after I submitted the claim. I was very impressed. ASAP said that the service guy would be out here in about an hour and a half, which was fine. However, about 20 minutes later, they called me and said the service tech had a family emergency. There was another tech that was here within less than an hour, and it was the owner of the company. He was a super sweet guy that installed a new garbage disposal. He had to do some plumbing work under to make it fit right, which he did. Every time that I had to call the office to talk to somebody, they were so considerate. We were thoroughly pleased with them.

American Home Shield is a great plan and we’re thrilled to have it. We live in a retirement community and I have been highly recommending them to all of the people. The guy at ASAP that did the plumbing for us said that he bought a new home for his mom and bought her American Home Shield to go with the house as well.

But this time, I didn’t. I decided to do it through the ticket system online and then I chatted with the individual with a chat option to make sure I did it right, ‘cause it was my first submitting the request. It went smooth. Then the gentleman who came down was very humble. He asked me what was wrong and I told him what was happening. He looked at it, cleaned up the area, did what he was supposed to do, suggested some things, and took care of the situation. Once he got it back up and running, everything was good. American Home Shield covers more than the other company I was with before and they're great so far. I haven’t had an issue yet.

I had one leaking faucet in the bathroom and a couple of other faucets that were leaking inside. The screw was loose on one faucet. The Just Plumbing guy came for it and when he got in, he walked to the bathroom and did not even touch any of the faucets. He asked me to show the faucets and I did. He noted it down, directly went downstairs and connected the water pressure thing. He did not show me how much the pressure was and when I asked him to show it, he said he couldn’t. He wrote a report saying that it was a secondary damage and he doesn’t cover it. Then, he walked away.

I kept calling American Home Shield to get a report on what the limit was that he wrote on the report and one week later, there was no response from the Just Plumbing vendor. Finally, AHS sent a secondary vendor for a look up. On the report, there was only one faucet listed, so he said he was going to fix only one faucet which was fine. The technician fixed it and he was in and out in five minutes.

Submitting claims to AHS is easy but getting someone on the phone is very difficult. If I have to talk to someone, it takes half an hour to wait on the phone for that agent. By that time, the phone gets disconnected and you have to wait for another agent to come back on the line. I did not get a proper response three times because they didn’t have any information other than it states that the guy did not submit the report. All I was asking for was to show me the report, the reason why and the limits. So, if I had a running faucet for a week, my water will stay up.

There was one bad vendor that did not respond right or maybe the technician that was not professional but it finally got resolved. On the next report, there was only one listed so, I didn’t know where the gap was. Even the second report has changed. He showed me his work order because there was only one listed. The first time I found out who sent me the second person’s other review, it was fine and she understood my problems. At this point, I am mad and unhappy. It all depends on who you would get when you talk to someone.

We’ve had American Home Shield for years. My mom has had it and I didn’t know it existed. When I told my mom we were having a problem, she told me about it and so then I was able to sign up for the online portal and be able to look at the contract. So now, I have an idea and I'm familiar with them. A couple of months ago, I had a plumbing issue and one guy came out. He wasn’t equipped to do the kinda job he identified. So, American Home Shield had to call another one and Josh, the technician, came out. He was local to me, so if I had an issue, he could swing by at the end of his day and re-address it. That experience was really good. However, I still don't have my second issue dealt with.

Half the power went out in our house. I was able to go online and request an appointment. American Home Shield said they’d contact me back. The next day, I still didn’t hear anything. So then I waited on hold for over an hour and they said that they would bump me up to priority since the bathrooms and all the bedrooms are out of power. The contractor came out on a Sunday. He said that the dimmer switch was going bad. That time, it was already working. He also told me a little bit of information. Then he said, “If you’re still having a problem, let me know. I’ll come back.” He seemed nice, but he didn't fix it. That night, we had the problem so I called the day after that. The man was supposed to come back out, but he never came.

So then, I called American Home Shield and I was on hold again for an hour. I told them that it's been a week and I'm still getting no response. I said that I don't wanna pay that $75 for someone and the issue is still not rectified. Then, somebody else had to come out. He was there for about 45 minutes identifying the issue. There’s a broken wire somewhere, but the guy didn't have the necessary equipment to be able to finish it. So, he would have his scheduler call me as they have to send somebody else for another appointment to where they can investigate where the broken wire in the wall is. A lady said that she was gonna call me back later that day to find out when somebody was gonna show up. No one called. She called me back a day and a half later to schedule somebody to come out to investigate it again. And here we are. This is going on the end of a two-week period.

Communicating with a representative over at American Home Shield is also challenging. If I have to call them, I need to make sure that I have to be by a phone for at least an hour. So, if I’m at home, I put them on speaker and I do my dishes. But I’ve got kids, a mother, and sports, so sometimes, it’s just too busy of a day to be waiting on hold for an hour to reach somebody. Chatting with somebody online wasn’t even an option until I hit a particular button and a chat window became available. So, while I was on hold at work, I was also chatting. And I got more done with chatting. Nobody ever came on the line through the whole chat process. So far, that has been the worst.

I was having an issue with my dryer. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the filing was an easy process. I was contacted by the repair company the next day, but then they gave me a date two weeks out. I contacted American Home Shield and they assigned my claim to another repair company which they came out the next day.

I had very good interactions with the repair company -- the best I had by far. They called before the tech came, texted me a picture of the tech, and they also called after the service to make sure I was satisfied. They were really friendly and very professional. They wore little booty pieces and cleaned up after themselves. A part had to be ordered and the tech ordered it that same day. That part came in the following day and so the day after that, the guy came back and he fixed the unit. It was really fast and it was a very good experience. The unit has been working very well since then. American Home Shield has provided me with good service and I have been very satisfied with them. I have referred other people to them.

The oven was not heating and when I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield, it was just a couple of days before the contractor came out. I asked him what was wrong with it and he explained it to me. It was the igniter for the oven and he repaired it. When I had a home inspection, they inspected the oven and it was fine. However, when I used it, it didn’t work. So, you just never know when something's gonna go wrong. Also, you just never know when you're buying a home that was owned and lived in by somebody else. I've known other people who had American Home Shield which was why I purchased the warranty. It is extremely valuable. If something breaks that's under the warranty, it's covered for the repair and if it's unable to be repaired, they cover the replacement. So, it's worth the money.

In the very first service call we got, the garbage disposal locked up. I did not know that I could get an Allen wrench, go under the bottom and turn it around three or four times and it would start working again. When the contractor came out, he did not tell me that. He got his Allen wrench out, turned it around and it started working. He was there for less than a minute and I had to pay him $75. I was hot about that. I called AHS and complained about it, but they said there was nothing they could do. I still wanted my money back because I felt like I got ripped off. The only time I get to use the warranty is when something breaks. If something doesn't break, I don't get to use it but I still gotta pay for it. I’m also not happy with the way AHS's prices keep going up.

The same garbage disposal recently stopped working, and American Home Shield had somebody come out to replace it. I submitted a claim for it over the phone, which was easy to do. The only problem I have is that when I talk to somebody on the phone, it's hard to understand the reps and sometimes they can be very rude. Nevertheless, the contractor who came out was very knowledgeable and nice. He explained the details and what it’s gonna take to keep it clean. He said that it had some rusting and that’s why it stopped working and started to burn out. He changed it out quickly and got it done in one visit.

We have a French door refrigerator and the centerpiece on the left-hand side that closes the door had cracked from the hinge. It was a very easy fix and it just needed to be replaced. We’ve had American Home Shield for nine years in this house and other years in our older house. As a recommendation from me as a consumer, American Home Shield needs to scrub their list a little. I have nothing against small, private vendors because I’ve had them come and they had been wonderful, but I’ve had two situations with the vendor, Country Care, where they never called and they never showed up.

I called AHS again and they sent Sears out. They were wonderful and there was no issue with them. However, I spent almost an hour on the phone one time because AHS charged me two $85 visits. I got an email notice saying, “Please pay your bill.” It had the date of 10/28 and it was the date for the Country Care, so I called back and was on hold for a very long time again. The young man spent a very long time and we got the issue resolved.

Then, I got a paper in the mail saying I still owe $85. The rep said something that the first gentleman did not. He was trying to transfer it over instead of giving me credit for the first $85 then recharging me. That may be wrong or it may be the reverse, where he should’ve transferred it over and not credited me, but he seemed to figure it all out. He was more knowledgeable than the first person. After that, I got a paper bill which I’m ignoring. I hope it’s all situated and taken care of.

Country Care was awful. In nine years, they have come out to our house several times in that time, but it seems to be the biggest problem right now. When I call, I usually try and get Sears, which is also known as A&E or Maytag, one of the larger vendors. But last year, it was obviously a family affair. They fixed our dishwasher and they did a good job2. It’s not that I am anti to private businesses, but I can’t be the only one that has complained about that one gentleman.

But it took a while to get to that point. I also had a good experience when I used the plumber when my pipes were clogged. Then, I had a decent experience with a different plumber that I used a month ago. The heater was not heating properly and I submitted the claim online on the AHS website. Within an hour, Service Contractors of Texas reached out to me and scheduled an appointment. The contractor was very friendly, and he was quite experienced. In the beginning, he couldn't find the problem that persisted and eventually, he had to go on the roof. He had a short ladder, but he went anyway and he managed to get on to the roof, so I was very pleased. The capacitor of the compressor was bad, so he replaced it and now it's working well. I had a good experience.

AHS, however, always finds something that they don’t cover. I would prefer if they could have better coverage on certain things. With the AC, for example, when it’s not up to code, we have to pay more for some of the stuff. I had a problem in the past when I changed the water heater. The technician was not very good and had to come several times. Then when the inspector came, he said there was no drain pan installed. So I don't think the installation was done properly. It was not up to code. It was done two or three years ago and I just realized that this year. Now I have, again, a problem with the heater, and AHS won’t cover it. They were saying it’s not up to code, but it was them who had somebody install it.

The online claim process is very much faster. On the first times, I submitted claims over the phone but there could've been many people calling so it was a long wait sometimes, especially on a Monday. It’s our second year now with American Home Shield and every time we had a problem, it was fixed and then there wasn't any more extra charges. The contractor sent by AHS is fabulous. His name is Vladimir and he's one of the nicest servicemen I've ever had in my life. He has a great, can-do attitude. Nothing is too big or too small, and he's there to take care of me. My washer sounded like a helicopter was landing in my house, and looked at it and said the bearings were spun out of the tub. He ordered new bearings and we're waiting for them to come in.

American Home Shield's website has that little pop up and it usually pops up for a live person, but sometimes a live person to talk to is usually better because not everybody can talk as fast. I give my daughter permission to call them when she needs to, but she is deaf. So American Home Shield could have some more ESL or deaf reps. Online is one thing but it's because sometimes their language is a little different than what we speak. I tried to have my daughter do it one time, and they didn't understand what she was trying to say. They should also give an option to talk to somebody when a person submits a claim online.

The professionalism and knowledge of their contractor seemed pretty good. But I didn't like it when they kept having to call and reschedule so many times. It kept making a hard day a little bit harder and then finally, the washer broke down before they could fix it. We didn't have a place to wash our clothes. We had to go to the laundromat. We have one person here with medical necessity, so they need a little more care than others and that became an issue when we couldn't get them their clean clothes. When the contractor came for the dishwasher, they were able to fix it, but they didn't even realize that they had the work order for the washer. I had to remind them about it. It took over a month for them to finish off the job, so we were very frustrated. But everything is 100% now.

The online response was much quicker than the phone when I filed a claim to American Home Shield. The technicians were excellent but the wait times were too long. They said that they would call you and I had to wait for three business days for them to assign a company to come out and fix my place. The company would call you and it’s another three days until you get a service person to come out. I had a leak under my sink and I waited eight days until I could get it looked at. Then, they sent the wrong person. They misunderstood what the problem was. However, when the people did come out, it was fine.

We have a problem with our 25-year-old furnace. The thermostat signals the furnace to start heating but then, there’s a problem with the furnace starting the flame and continuing it. We all just hear a continuous sound and the thermostat says it’s trying to heat but the temperature keeps dropping. There’s no fire going. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield and we’ve already had about 11 visits, total, and it’s still not resolved. They've replaced multiple parts and they’ve gotten a second company to come and look at it and they’ve come out three times. Clearly, the repair has exceeded the cost of a furnace. The companies are all really responsive though. They came out right away and overall, the experience with AHS was good.

But they responded quickly during that weekend and were able to get it resolved much more quickly than I anticipated. The process of submitting the claim was very easy and straightforward. And it was comforting to have the information about who was coming. Family AC Service Solution came out and my wife was very pleased with them. The whole experience was very positive, much more so than when we were with a different agency. So we would very quickly reach out to American Home Shield for service on our investment properties.

As soon as the cycle would kick on, the water would flush out from the dishwasher. It was like the drain valve wasn’t opening and closing. The contractor came within a day to look at it. He asked me what was going on with it and I explained to him what it was doing. He went right to work and he was knowledgeable so it worked out well. Arthur was great and I’ve dealt with him before. He knew what he was doing but he couldn’t get the panels off because they were all rusted and the screws were rusting. When I went to file the claim to American Home Shield through the website, it was easy but when they were deciding that they were gonna replace the dishwasher, the website was a little bit more difficult to navigate. On some of the pages for dishwashers, it would say that there is no cost to me and when we click and add it to cart, it would say the cost is $140. It was confusing but the website was perfect and everything went fine.

Myers Comfort Specialist came out and replaced the air handler unit upstairs. It worked fine for about three weeks. Then we would wake up in the morning and notice the house was really cold. I'd walk over to the thermostat and I would see that it had flipped the breaker overnight. The new unit that they put up there was a little stronger than the older one and it kept flipping the breaker so they had to replace that electrical switch. They recently came out for that and once they fixed that, it's been perfect.

Claims with American Home Shield are normally good. We usually call and the wait times can be rather long but aside from that, it's fairly easy. The contractors who come out are excellent as well. When we made the claim, Myers contacted us the same day and made an appointment. The appointment is kind of out of American Home Shield's hands. But it was three days after the claim was made that the contractor had a slot open to come out to us so it was pretty timely. It's always a pain in the butt when you gotta fork out money for a home improvement but that’s the name of the game when you're owning a home. But as far as American Home Shield, they did great. In fact, we'll probably renew the warranty after that year is up just because the amount of money it saved me on the air handler unit was drastic, compared to what had to come out of my pocket. I would also definitely recommend them to a friend.

On the first visit the technician said they fixed the heater, but when we arrived home that evening it was still not functioning properly and they left our gas running all day. Second visit they replaced the sensors, which worked, but they disconnected the heater capability from our Aqualink system.

When we reported the connection issue with Aqualink they said, "Oh that isn't covered by AHS." I understand it is not covered, but it was broken by their technician. The heater worked a few weeks and then again broke down. The third visit they said the heater was broken because the heater was not ever installed correctly from the initial install. This is not considered normal wear and was denied by the insurance co. Our heater is ten years old so I guess for ten years it was installed wrong. Please beware of AHS sending this company to repair your pool. Please do your research on the repair companies before you utilize their services.

Well we called for service this week to repair our garage door that was broken and paid the service fee. The company that was sent for service was Hometown Garage Doors, LLC. The serviceman evaluated that we needed the spring and rollers replaced however when he called for approval from AHS it was denied.

The representative said garage door assemblies or track are not covered, only the garage door opener is covered. We are furious! Why did they send a garage door repair company when they don't even cover garage doors? They should have told us that when we requested the repair. They sent a company serviceman from a town two hours away from where we live and we ended up paying him ourselves. Updated on 02/02/2019: Two weeks ago, we had gas leak from the hot water tank. Central Hudson, the gas company turned off the gas and require a reinspection after the gas leak is fixed. I called AHS and AHS sent Alliance Contracting for the job. The contractor replaced the whole water tank but when Central Hudson came back to reinspect, they failed the inspection because the contractor used a flexible gas pipe, not a hard copper pipe. We had hard pipe on the old water tank before but for some reason the contractor decided to use flexible pipe instead.

I have tried multiple time to get the contractor back to fix it but he refused, claiming it passes building code. The problem is that the building department has nothing to do with the inspection. It's the gas company that failed it and he refuses to fix it or deal with the gas company. Finally, AHS made him to call me to schedule a follow up service. Then he asked me to pay for it. I told him I shouldn't be paying because that's why I got insurance for. He refused to fix it again. At this time, I'm not even comfortable or feeling safe to have him come back to my house to touch the gas line knowing he is upset and bitter about this situation.

I have called AHS multiple times without resolution. Every time, I was told that they need to contact their supervisor and would get back to me but never did. I have been push to a point of exhaustion. If there is gas leak in the future or when the gas company comes to shut off the gas in this frigid weather because of failed inspection, I'm going to hold AHS accountable.

Original review: We had a broken pipe on 10/8/2018. AHS couldn't find a contractor for us and asked us to find one ourselves and reimburse us later. Our contractor called AHS, got approval and repaired the broken pipe. After I submitted the receipt for reimbursement, there is no response. I emailed five times without response. I called twice. Each time the representative told me will get back to me next day but never did. My contractor has also called on our behalf as well. It has been three months since the service, still no response. It's beyond frustration and we are wasting so much time on this issue that should have been resolved long time ago.

I made two claims with American Home Shield in the past 60 days. The last one was for my air-conditioner. For that one, I could've gotten a better technician. I had an issue with my heat pump and ductwork. My son's room was blowing hot air and we were trying to get the coolness to come on but the grid was frozen. I was trying to figure out how to get it to work again. But I remembered that it probably just needed some refrigerant in order to work.

The technician was going all around trying to figure out exactly what was causing it to freeze up, which was fine because I might have thought of one thing but he was the professional so he might have known another. He initially went in to check to make sure that all the coils were okay and that they did not have a leak. There were some things on the outside and I asked them what they were and why they were there. He called it growth on the outcome report, but it wasn't. It was bluish and I thought it was just refrigerant. He said it was when cool air and stuff like that were all over it, that was what happened.

For some other reason, there was no particular place where any holes were present. He couldn't necessarily find any so he went and checked the outside. There was no oil that was leaking and it was really just low refrigerant. He told me that he was going to add more refrigerant to it but that he really shouldn't because American Home Shield would charge me. He said that it was something to where he needed to take the whole A-frame out, take it to his place of business and do testing. He called to see if American Home Shield would pay for it and he also called his home office. They told him that it would probably take a lot longer and that the cost might not be covered. He ended up just topping off the refrigerant then he left.

That fixed the issue. But now because of the technician's report that there was bio-growth, I would need a whole new air-conditioning unit. He basically stopped my chances if anything were to happen to my air-conditioning unit. I don't like that part because I felt like whoever this HVAC technician was, he did the very bare minimum. He ended up kind of hurting me in the end because they want somebody to just call them on their own and not use American Home Shield. That's what a lot of people do when they're not getting enough money for the call.

This happened during a time that I was rushing around. I was starting a new job so I didn't have a chance to really talk to American Home Shield about any of what happened. They called me and left a message, but I didn't have a chance to speak to them. When they called me, they said that there was bio-growth on there and that was what the technician said. I was thinking that he didn't take any pictures to show American Home Shield and that it was just his words. That was another thing too. I was kind of on an act of mercy of whoever was coming out.

I just think that there is some integrity issue sometimes with certain people. The thing is just because they're doing business with you doesn't mean they're trying to get you on the other end. If you're paying them so much per call, they are thinking themselves that this isn't worth so much. They're gonna look to try to get top dollar or somewhere in the middle. American Home Shield I'm sure realized that. But the consumer is losing out on the end because we're paying the monthly premium with American Home Shield to be able to call these contractors. The care is really left up to themselves and their contractors and last on the consumer. You have to watch out for when you're getting a warranty company. Are they looking out for your best interest?

I used to be a Home Shield customer in the past and recently, I re-joined the ranks. The company is a lot better than it used to be. What it needs to be is that they need to give more than a PDF of your contract. They need to have you directed to a specific claim then see exactly what's covered and what's not because contracts can be really tricky to read. It only helps you to be more informed if they give you the contract, and they show you what's covered and what not. If they come to you and they say that bio-growth isn't covered, they're gonna look through their contract and show you then that it's not covered. But if you can do it yourself, it's like, "I did it myself. It's no big deal. I understand that this is that.” I don't need a phone call later.

The only thing he didn't know was, he wasn't familiar with the lock because there was a delay on there up to 12 hours. He got it on "delayed one hour" and he couldn't get it off. After he left, I was able to get it off so that we could temporarily use it until they got it repaired. But he replaced whatever it was he replaced and the dishwasher works perfectly since then. Having the warranty is very valuable. We have used it three times over the year and a half that we've had it. We also used it for our dryer and a plumbing issue.

I’m a property manager and I work with a lot of warranty companies. We had a valve on a washing machine that was leaking and frozen and I called it in through American Home Shield. That experience was fine, but overall, I’m not a fan of American Home Shield and I don’t recommend them as a home warranty company. I recommend another company over them. I’ve had some very bad experiences with them in the past year, including incredibly long wait times on the phone and denial of service. When you wait on the phone for an hour to talk to a representative and not just once but consistently, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour in some cases, that’s way too long. In one case, we had a woman who paid her warranty to American Home Shield for nine years and when her AC went out, they refused to replace the AC. She ended up having to come out of pocket for about $6,000.

Also, as with most warranty companies, a warranty company is generally only as good as the vendors they send out and it’s very hit-or-miss. Either the vendor is strong and they get out there and do a professional job, or they’re terrible and they don’t communicate and don’t get the job done right. Plus, there’s really no way of telling a lot of this because you can’t request your vendor, so it’s a luck of the draw.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. They offered me $1,304 to go out and find my own refrigerator. But they should have offered more because it costs more to replace my refrigerator. I'm trying to find one along that price range that fits into my kitchen and half of the replacement refrigerators they offered me aren't being manufactured anymore. The other refrigerator that they offered me didn’t fit in my kitchen. It was way too big and wide. I couldn't even get it past the counters. But they don't manufacture the smaller ones that would fit in there. I would like to get the same refrigerator I have, but American Home Shield don’t have it in the line-up.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for a plumbing issue and my experience in navigating the website was really great. It's very convenient. But sometimes, they don't quite understand what I'm saying so they would misplace my request then I would have to call them. But when I call AHS, it really takes a long time for them to answer the phone. I'm on the phone forever, waiting. It's really a big problem. That never happened with AHS before. But nowadays, I don't know. They want us to request online only.

Getting a contractor out wasn't a problem though. It was pretty quick and the contractor was great. They were very professional and then they did a really good job. The faucet was leaking and he tried to fix it. But the structure is pretty old and the leak was not really fixable. So he called AHS again and he just replaced the faucet. I was really satisfied. Having the warranty is really convenient and I love it. If you yourself find a plumber, it's really a hassle. That's why I've been keeping this AHS warranty forever. It's been 20 to 30 years. I also recommended my two neighbors.

The people at American Home Shield called the guy out, texted that my pipes have been busted and I needed another pump. I had to pay $100 deductible, and the guy came out and fixed it. The water come out faster. It went perfect. AHS is the best company to go with. I already went with several trying to be cheap, and they take for days and days to come out. A year ago, I had another company, and they sent the company out. The part they put on broke. Overall out of all the companies, AHS is the 100 perfect company to go with.

I have a tenant in one of my properties and the furnace went out. I called American Home Shield to have them send out somebody to take care of the problem and they called a vendor out of Oklahoma City who was 90 miles south of Tulsa. It took the vendor three days to get to my property to see what the problem was. My property has a young lady with three children and it was damn cold. I had to put up those people in a hotel so they wouldn’t freeze. Finally, American Home Heating and Air came and looked at the furnace and said that there was a motor problem in my furnace. They didn’t take the motor out. They just went back to Oklahoma City and didn’t take care of the problem. I had to call American Home Shield again to find out why the problem was not being fixed.

The techs came out and they looked at the furnace and said that they couldn’t get the model number off of the motor because it was too rusted, so they went back to Oklahoma City. I called American Home Shield again and we were in the Christmas holidays. American Home Heating and Air Conditioning didn’t work for 10 days because of the holidays. Meanwhile, I was putting my tenants up in a hotel because they didn’t have heat. I got fed up with the situation, so I called another vendor in Tulsa and had them come to take a look at the furnace. They came and took a look at it and they said that it was not the motor. The motor was just fine. They said that my heat exchanger was totally rusted out and it had holes in it, therefore, it did not hold any pressure or could not throw any heat into the house. The said that I had to replace the whole unit. I told them to replace it and get it done.

They replaced the unit and it cost me $6,100. American Home Shield did not follow through with the original vendor to make sure that the problem got taken care of. I called American Home Shield on the 7th of January and I told them that I replaced the unit, and they gave me a code number. I emailed them and faxed over to them the pictures of the heat exchanger that was all rusted out. I also sent a letter and the invoice of what it cost me to repair that furnace. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard from American Home Shield.

I started with American Home Shield many years ago and I thought the price would stabilize or even have more discount because we have multiple properties. But the price keeps going up every year. So at one point, I was thinking maybe I should look for other companies because some companies offer much cheaper rates and the coverage is pretty much the same. But I've found out on the market that the price is very comparable. I’m paying almost $70 a month for four properties. My wife was saying though that if I would save that money, I can probably repair everything. She asked why I kept paying. But I just want to have peace of mind. I don’t wanna have big things happen all of a sudden. So overall, it’s still worth it.

Beck Plumbing came out for the toilet, which was wobbling. There was also some leaking which must be because of the wobbling. Beck fixed it but within a month, I noticed it was wobbling again. The water also leaked again like before. The caulking was kinda melted and although it is not covered, I didn't care. I would pay for it. I called American Home Shield and luckily, they said that it was within 30 days when I called and they could actually send the company to re-call, visit again and see what’s going on, like a warranty.

They came out in a couple of days. In fact, they were supposed to do this thing in the New Year. But I said no. It was too late. I had visitors during the New Year. Then they actually came out on Sunday. That was December 30th. So the same guy came out and looked at the toilet. He did the repair again, stabilized it and did the caulking. I asked him if he was sure it was good this time and he said it looked pretty good. The attitude for this guy is okay also. He was a little nice. It’s January 17th today and so far, there is no leaking or wobbling. But I'm watching it. I wanna make sure that within 30 days, it’s good. If I don’t pay attention and something goes wrong, when I call, they would say the warranty has expired.

Another thing is that the first time they came out, I had to take a half day off and go home to stay there because they gave me a window of four hours. But when they came out the second time, it was a Sunday so it did not affect me a lot. I was home anyway. But the inconvenience was because the issue happened again and they had to come out again. I also had to request again. So hopefully, they can fix the problem in one time. It was not 100% perfect but overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

American Home Shield has been doing awesome. Every time we have an issue, they send a repair company out. If the repair company could fix the issue, they would fix the stuff, which is very good. Once, we were having an electrical issue with our oven. I called them and filed a claim. That process was easy -- I did it in Spanish, just the way I like it, and their Spanish customer service was really nice. The company that came was very good. The stove was kinda old and so they had to replace the control panel. They ordered some insulation. We had to wait for a week and a half to get the unit fixed because they didn't have the part, but it was okay.

The freezer part of the refrigerator was making ice all over the floor. AHS fixed that about two days ago and that had been fine ever since. Now, we’re having a little bit of a problem with the dishwasher. Home Pro Refrigeration and Appliance came out and they were very punctual, pleasant, and did their job. Unfortunately, the pump that they sent had a leak and so it wasn’t his fault. It was the company’s fault that made the pump. Without the dishwasher since before Christmas, the day-to-day operations haven’t been good. AHS finally decided to replace it and they sent me a sheet via email that was horrible. I couldn’t see whether the dishwashers were stainless steel fronts or not and everything appeared to be in black and white. I could look at the things but then, the phone would lock up when I tried to look at them. We’ve been having no end of grief with this. Trying to figure out what to order off of what AHS send to us is next to impossible.

My husband and I never had a warranty on our property. Our good friend in Gruver ad several different houses, and they have it in every house they ever had. When my husband passed away, having it was a lifesaver for me. Recently, we had had our electricity going on and off all day the day before and the day before that, it was off five hours. That next morning, I woke up and the house was freezing cold. It was gonna be three degrees that next morning.

So, I called American Home Shield at 9:30 AM. I got an email back that they got Bob Jay's out of Perryton, I am familiar with them and they are the best. Jay called me within 45mins and he said they’d be here right after dinner. then about 1:15, he sent me a text message and said that Steven had finished earlier and that Steven would be coming out. They came out and examined all the connections on the heater and hit a reset button, thinking that might help because the electricity had been going on and off. Then they just did a regular service, looked at the filters to make sure all the wires were connected. They were very thorough and Steven, couldn't have been nicer. I felt silly that I didn't know all this stuff and he said, "Vicki, why should you? That's what we're here for." They were already finished and back on their way by 2:30.

One of the things that I found that's really impressive about the service of AHS is that I put a request in online and within an hour I get a text saying who the contractor is and that they would be reaching out. They've been really good about getting back to me fairly quickly, even within a day. Going to the website is extremely efficient and easy. My wife and I have done it a couple of times. The one thing that we've noticed though was that when we tried to give AHS a call, the wait time is really long, like sometimes they were between the 20 or 30-minute timeframe. So we go through the website, which has been fantastic.

The contractors were also excellent. Rapps came in for two things -- one was the ceiling fan issue and the other one was the garbage disposal. The contractors were two separate people. They both came in and explained exactly what they were gonna do. I went to do what they needed to do and then came back. They gave me an overview of what they found and what the next steps would be.

They came to find there was something that was jammed in the disposal, so the contractor gave me a recommendation. He said to try it for a couple days and if it didn't work to call back and then they would come back and replace the disposal. They were actually coming back tomorrow to do so. But he was really clear and upfront that because it was something that we put in there, it wouldn't be covered through American Home Shield. He quoted the price, so we knew ahead of time, which is good. It was a bit more complicated with the ceiling fan. The guy came out, he looked at the ceiling fan and did a really nice job letting me know what the issue was and the problem wasn't gonna be covered. But we asked for him to come back and fix the fan and we would pay for it. He did an amazing job. Both contractors were very efficient, professional and very friendly.

I would give them 0 stars if I could. I put in a service request and the guy came out and said my faucet was no longer being made and I would have to replace everything, cut a hole in my wall and put new plumbing in it. All he did was sit on the edge of my tub and touch it. My estimated cost after AHS was $700. I called for a second opinion. Not only could the other guy fix my leaking tub faucet, he did not have to cut into anything to fix it. There was already a hole under a faceplate that was already there (something I was told I would need). So for under $200 I had it fixed but not through AHS. So instead I am saving the $60/mo for incidentals, should I need it. But canceling AHS is another story. On hold for over 30 minutes each time I call. It's impossible to cancel. Maybe I need a lawyer at this point. I feel so scammed by my experience.

It was Christmas Eve so the contractor contacted me the next day to make sure that because it was the holiday if it was an emergency, they can turn that into an emergency service. It would be good, though, if, on their website, there was an indicator saying that this was an emergency service or something, to indicate faster response time, or an additional cost associated with the emergency service.

With the furnace being out, nobody wanted to be cold in the house. But it wasn’t an emergency, so we just treated that as such. When the contractor was able to come out a day after Christmas, he identified a part that had an end of life and he was able to get the part the same day that he came, which was good because it was not always the case. So far, the furnace has been working well since the repair. It was a good experience.

They ended up replacing the heater because it had a leak at the bottom. It was kind of refreshing to have that experience because we had heard about home warranty comes and things have been 50-50. Some people like them while others hate them, so we weren't expecting too much. AHS didn't give us any hassle, took care of the problem and told us what our part was gonna be to pay. In the end, that was exactly what it was, not a penny more.

More recently, the blower of my AC was trying to cycle on but it couldn't. It kept cutting off, then cycling on and then cutting off again. Every 10 seconds it was trying to kick on but it couldn't. I submitted a claim online to AHS and the contractor who came out thereafter was great. This has been the second time since we've moved into our house that AHS's contractors in our area have come out and we've been really pleased with them. The most recent claim was a leaking faucet, and it’s still open because the guy that came in broke the handle while he was trying to fix the leak. They're going to bring new handles and put them back tomorrow. AHS has been great and I’ve already recommended them to a few friends elsewhere.

The most recent claim that I submitted with American Home Shield was a racket that was coming out of the washer. I submitted the claim in connection with a repair that was made about a month ago. I assumed that it might’ve had something connected to the first visit. The fact that I put the request for service in over the holiday weekend, I would not have been surprised not to have been contacted until after the 1st of the year. Instead, I was contacted the next day and the rep asked how urgent the claim was. I explained that it was important to us. We use our washer and dryer about five times a week and it’s an integral part of our lifestyle. Surfside Appliance managed to juggle around stuff and get us in the following day. They came out here and punched it out.

The representative from Surfside Appliance absolutely knew what he was looking for and he showed me the broken part that he was speaking of, and how it was found to be the case. I was absolutely impressed with the knowledge, skills, and ability of the rep. He was extremely polite and very patient with my questions. He had the machine all up and parts all over the place, but when he was done, the area was as clean as it was when he got there. He really takes the extra step to make everybody look good and to do a good job. When he left, I really felt like he was here to take care of the problem and take care of us on behalf of American Home Shield.

It was nice to do business with people like him and the washer has been like brand-new since he came out. He was very good. If I didn’t have American Home Shield and I had something go wrong, I would call Surfside Appliance. They made American Home Shield look good, and they also made themselves look good by doing such a great job.

I submitted a claim over the phone since our AC was blowing hot air. I called two times or so that morning and I was given a time frame of 10 to 2 to expect the contractor. Then I got two calls. One call came from the dispatcher, saying that the driver was running late. Then I got a call from the actual technician who told me he was doing other calls before he would do our call. I told him on the phone that it was gonna be dark when he gets here, that he was not gonna be able to see on the side of the house and that he needs to see. But he said that it was gonna be all right and that he was gonna take care of us all.

He also said that he was my neighbor and that he lives about five minutes from us. That was a very casual conversation. It wasn't a business conversation. It doesn't matter if he lives across the street from me. We're paying for a contract with American Home Shield and he works for one of the actual companies that represent American Home Shield's contract. So he needs to be trying to assist us in getting our service.

I was having severe problems with breathing and he didn't get here until almost 6 o'clock. Then when he came out here, he was very obnoxious. He wanted to tell us all about how it goes with American Home Shield's contract and how it was for this other home warranty company. When we asked him not to discuss those issues with us, he proceeded to continue. Then he told us that we got an R-22 but American Home Shield told us five years ago when we got the unit that they weren't putting an R-22 in because it was being phased out. Then the technician said the capacitor was bad and he put in a new capacitor but even though he said it was Freon issue also, he did not really wanna go, check out the leak and see how much Freon had leaked out.

I asked how much Freon we were gonna need because we had put $1,000 worth of stuff in here three years before. I told him that something was wrong. Why would the Freon be leaking out like that? I told him that I knew that we would have to pay for Freon but that we needed to know how much has leaked out. He wasn't willing to go until I told him that I have asked people to come and not to come back. I was not gonna allow him to come into our home, be rude and be obnoxious like he had been. He asked why I was mad at him and I told him I was very disappointed with him and the way that he had been handling the service.

When he checked the leak, he said the Freon was all gone. Then he said he couldn't even check and see where the leak was coming from at night. And I was like, "Really? You can't check to see?" Then he went and told RAW Air his story. The manager at RAW Air was not willing to listen to me when I told them the service was bad. I called American Home Shield and they got someone else out here. They called me the very next morning but they wanted us to pay $80 for a pound of Freon for them to test to see where the leak was. They told us they couldn't come back out until we pay $80 but I told them we were not paying $80 just to go out the drain. I told them that they should be able to check it.

They sent a 70-something year old man out here last Saturday and this man didn't wanna check for the leak. He said he didn't having anything on his truck to test for it. I asked what the reason was for him coming out here then because we were supposed to be getting a leak checked out. He said he would call the office and when he came back, he had the Freon and everything with the pump, ready to test and see for the leak. So he lied to us. He told us he didn't have anything to check it with on his truck.

He came in, went around the back and checked. He said it wasn't on the outside condenser. So he came back through the garage and he had to climb up the attic. But he was breathing heavily. He said he had asthma and that he was trying to catch his breath. I was so sorry but why did they send somebody out here that they knew had asthma? When he finally got his breath, he went up there, checked and said there was a big hole in the evaporator. He said it was not repairable so I called American Home Shield back and Authorization told me that we were gonna be out of $840 for the Freon. They also wanted to put two float switches in and both of the floats would cost $167. It was a total of $1,007.

I called the contractor back on Thursday to find out why I hadn't gotten a call about the evaporator. They asked me if I knew that I was gonna be out of $1,200. I asked what it would be for and they told me I had to have a drip pan. I told them that we had just brought everything up to the government and that a company had put in a brand new evaporator three years earlier. Why would we have to have a drip pan just because we're using a different company? I was told I needed to call the warranty company.

But when I called, I was told that it was between the customer and the company, and that if I didn't wanna pay for the things that were not covered, I wouldn't have to pay for that. I told the representative that it was not that I didn't wanna pay, but I saw that they were not needed. He said I was absolutely right but they were gonna have to make a decision and get with the company. But no one has called me back. I'm waiting on a call right now from American Home Shield that I put in an hour ago. They said that they were very busy. I have spent 62 hours on the phone with American Home Shield in one week.

And I needed to do that because I submitted a claim three months before for the same issue, and American Home Shield sent the same company out twice and it wasn't fixed. This time, they sent a company that was fantastic. As the tech was working on one toilet, he was waiting on the other one to test. He knew exactly what he was doing and took his time to make sure that it was working properly. He did a good job because the problem hasn't recurred.

Another time, I needed some Freon and I found that their limit on Freon is really unfair. AHS says they would pay $20 a gallon but then the going rates are at $150. So, I was out of pocket $500 extra because all the Freon leaked out of a condo I have. Still, their contractors have been great thus far.

The washer wouldn’t finish a cycle. It would only go a little way and then the signals F and then H would come up. According to the manual, that meant it wasn’t getting enough water. So we called American Home Shield and the contractor they sent checked out everything on the washer and cleaned out the filter. He was a nice guy but he didn’t know what he was doing. He said the washer wouldn’t get enough water and that he needed to have a plumber come out and check the water supply. So he contacted the plumber and Just Plumbing Services came out. The plumber was also a nice guy. He determined that there was adequate water.

We called American Home Shield again and we set up the time to have a different, more experienced repair person come out. That was like on a Friday and it was the weekend that he was coming. But we thought that the first repair person getting that plug out of the filter might have helped the washer. We tried it and for two loads, it worked fine. We told the repair person that the washer seemed to be working fine. But then a week later, while doing another load, it did the same FH thing. We took the front panel off ourselves and tried to clean out that filter again, which didn’t seem clogged. But we then tried another load and it worked fine. I've washed two loads since and it’s been working fine.

Because there were three people involved, the claim took longer than we had hoped. When the first repairman came out, we thought it would be fixed. But it wasn’t and it took several days for him to get a plumber out. Then it took a few more days to have the next repairman called. We were running out of clean clothes. But everybody who has been out here has been very pleasant.

They explained everything. So, they were really clear of what they were trying to do. After removing the drain, it has been working fine. We use the sink every day, so it is very helpful. If something goes wrong, I do not want to call anyone. Now that I have a warranty, it gives more of a luxury for me or more comfort. I’m very satisfied and I always recommend AHS. My furnace wasn’t giving any heat and it was very loud. It had been repaired about three or four times before and the loud noise never ever stopped but we were happy to get heat. So this time, we had both of them. I sent an email to American Home Shield saying I needed service. On the website, they said they would send out a contractor within 48 hours and they did. They even called on a holiday. A guy from Air Supply Services came and he was on time. He explained everything to me and when I told him about how noisy the thing was, he said he was never leaving and that he was gonna fix it.

He went inside and I know he tightened up some things. He found the problem with the furnace right away because he saw some water that came down if he was opening something up to let the heat or whatever in. I told him they just did the roof with that and that it was bad. He said that would affect it if it leaked in which made sense. Everything has been fine since he left. Not hearing that noise at night is almost like I don’t know if I can go to sleep now because it’s too quiet. I don’t know how anybody can do without a home warranty. American Home Shield researches, finds somebody, and gets somebody that fast. Then, they just come right on out and boom, boom, it’s done.

American Home Shield is a great service and I usually recommend them to everyone. When you call or you do a service request online, they call you and make things happen. Sometimes, you go a whole year without anything happening, so you're really paying that service just in case anything goes down, so it won't be so painful. And when something does happen, you wish you would have had it because if it’s something they can’t fix, they give you a brand-new one. And sometimes, those large items can be very expensive. But once you get the service, you're paying the $75 service fee on top of your monthly payments and I think that service fee should go away.

Aside from that, sometimes trying to get through over the phone is difficult and the process is not as simple. You gotta wait and sometimes you get through but sometimes you don't. Then you gotta call back. But once you go online and submit your claim, it's usually much faster and easier, from my experience. Their website is also user-friendly and that's because I know how to do it.

So, for my recent claim on my washing machine, I filed it online. When the tech came, there was a button I did not see and all he did was push it then reset it. I could have dealt with that and I would have never needed him. So, that was a $75 experience that I could kick myself. And on these new machines, they got so many different options, buttons, and little radio buttons, But it was right there, stuck in plain sight, and I just didn't realize it. So, the tech showed me that. Also, the washing machine was a hand-me-down from my dad. It was one of those nice front-loads and the tech also showed me how to download the service manual. Then, he did a little maintenance clean-up, took it apart, and ran some tests. So, he gave me a little more for my money and the service was really good.

That company has a BBB rating of F and has several warnings from previous customers.

I purchased the highest warranty they offered with my new home (covering all systems & Appliances). BUYER BEWARE! If you have ANY high end custom appliances in your new home just know that they will not be serviced by an appliance repair company certified to do the work! My Dacor dishwasher still is not fixed. The repair company that AHS dispatched that is "in their network" has made a total of 3 visits in just over a month now & has caused more damage than originally existed to the appliance and also to my 24 X 24 custom imported slate floors. On the 3rd visit the owner of the repair company came out & while very nice & professional - told me that he apologizes - he has been doing repairs for over 24 years & they should have never been sent to work on this high end appliance.

He told me that only a repair company certified to service any of the items in my kitchen (Dacor & SubZero) should ever be sent out & that he would be conveying that to AHS. Once he did AHS assigned another company to my repair who is not certified/qualified on Dacor appliances either. After holding to speak to an actual person at AHS for over an hour & spoke with the rudest customer service rep I have ever encountered - she cut me off constantly while I tried to explain the total situation and expressed my concern that I have already had 3 visits bill against my annual cap for this appliance by a company they assigned simply because it was within their network.

My dishwasher is not repaired - has additional damage done to the gasket seal that didn't exist before they attempted repairs - and my floors are now damaged as well. No apology - no "I'm so sorry you are still dealing with this issue. Let me see what I can do" - just a "hold on & let me check on something" was her response. After additional hold time she returned to the line and just stated "I've checked and we (AHS) don't require a repair company to actually be certified by the manufacturer for repair - as long as they say they can do it & they are in our network we dispatch them out".

I asked to speak to a manager to explain the ridiculous over one month now with 3 visits & no repair but additional damage to my appliance & home - as well as my concerns with these counterproductive visits counting against my appliance limit when the owner of the company himself told me & reported to AHS that they should have never been dispatched to begin with - and I was told by the "Customer Service Rep" that no manager was available. She asked if I would like a call back from a manager. I indicated that I most definitely would like a call back by a manager. Over 24 hours & I am still waiting! I wonder how long I will have to hold to reach a manager today!

Extremely dis-satisfied customer and this is my very first interaction with this company - aside from a random sales call trying to sell me another year of coverage up front at a "discounted rate". Thank goodness I told them I will be happy to renew at full price at the end of my contract term if I choose to do so but that I would rather wait the year to see how the company handles any service requests over that time before I make that decision. Safe to say they are not off to a great...even good start!

Best advice to anyone considering this company - if your home has high end custom appliances this is NOT the company for you! The one company in my area that is certified to service Dacor only charges 95.00 for the initial visit/assessment -they then give you an estimate of any parts needed and labor needed - at a rate of 95.00/hour. If you proceed with the repair the initial 95.00 assessment fee goes towards your total repair costs. Seems reasonable to me since I know from the previous repair company dispatched that their service rate for each time they come out with AHS is 250.00 per trip!

Advice # 2 - DO NOT think for one second that it will be easy to speak to a person with any concerns with an ongoing issue Advice #3 Don't think for a second that once you are "lucky" enough to speak to someone at AHS that they will be at all helpful. Advice #4 Don't think for a second that "Management" exists or will call you back in a timely manner - I mean you are just their "customer" right & they clearly have better things to do.

Advice # 5 Don't think that they are dispatching actual qualified people to perform the work... As soon as you see the company they have assigned to you do your own research before scheduling them to come to your home as AHS does not properly Vet these companies - they are just looking for companies who say they can do the work and are willing to contract with AHS at a slightly reduced rate. Advice # 6 Don't expect AHS to make things right in these situations with regard to crediting you back the amount of money WASTED against YOUR annual maximum because they did not sufficiently do THEIR homework upfront. Advice # 7 If you're still undecided - re read #1 -7 & good luck!

4 months ago, we made a call for a plumbing issue, but due to it being a holiday weekend, we didn't get a call for service for several days. We were finally able to do the repairs ourselves and cancelled the service but still got charged the 100.00 fee. I have been promised multiple times that I would be reimbursed, but have not been. The same issue came up again this past weekend, and someone was sent out again. I was told that I will still be charged the service fee, but again promised that the other fee would be reimbursed soon.

When the plumber arrived, he said the only way to access the problem would be to create a new clean out, which would not be covered by the warranty and would be 950.00. I called another company who came out and fixed the problem for 200.00. So, we are out for that fix, plus 200.00 for both service fees that never occurred. I have tried to call the company but am always put on hold in excess of 45 minutes and find no other way to communicate this other than writing this horrible review.

Took out warranty 10/2017 and was told to wait 30 days from purchase of warranty to submit claim for problem with fridge and did just that. Technician sent out 12/2017 paid $100 deductible. Technician called AHS informing part needed and AHS denied Tech ever called. 1 month goes by, contacted Tech and was told AHS never approved part needed and he's no longer affiliated with them due to not being paid and owing him over 7 grand he's been waiting on for over 9 months. After we were told this by the Tech and once again called AHS they gave us another contractor who denied providing us service because of the same reason as the first Tech, they were owed quite a bit of money from AHS and had not been paid therefore they would not be servicing any warranties through them.

We once again called AHS and was told they didn't have anyone to service our fridge and for us to find a technician on our own, pay them, submit the bill to them (AHS) and they'd reimburse us. Why would we do that and they haven't paid your service vendors? This went on all the way through the end of August 2018 with no outcome at all. Keep your money! If you actually do not have vendors to cover warranties that have been purchased by consumers you have committed fraud. I believe this company is a fraud and I will still be filing a complaint with the BBB. Consumers be careful. And yes, when you're assisted with claims they are foreigners from overseas.

Updated on 01/23/2019: Loss heat on December 18, 2018. As of January 22, 2019 new furnace has not been installed. Four winter weeks without replacement. Constant excuses from contractor as to problems getting and scheduling time for repair. Calls to AHS ineffective. There apparently is no one to speak with that will help solve this. They only refer to notes on file. "Specialist" and customer service I have spoken to are ineffective.

Original Review: On Dec 18, 2018 our gas furnace went out. AHS was called and after two days of no response a second call was made to complain. A second contractor was assigned who did arrive within the designated 24 hours. That is where the cooperation of AHS stopped with this new contractor and our home. A replacement unit was sent initially, but was the incorrect size. Continued attempts by our contractor to rectify this and have a correct unit sent has met with constant delays, lengthy waiting on the phone, and at times no response at all. I must credit our contractor (Temp Control) with doing all that his time allows to work with us. However, he is frustrated, as are we, with the lack of cooperation from AHS.

Today, Jan. 8 2019 we are entering our THIRD week of winter without a furnace. Tonight, AHS claims that their "system was down" and no business could be conducted. Electric space heaters are being used in sub freezing temps. We can't imagine what our electric bill will be. Our experience with AHS has been unreal and disappointing. AHS needs to revise their processing procedures and their communication with contractors and clients.

When the light switch in my bathroom had a short in it, I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. And I was very frustrated because the first time I went online to submit the claim, the first technician called and he told me that they would have to come out the day he called. I was at work at that time and no one was at the house. I thought he would call and schedule an appointment. Instead, he told me that if he couldn’t do it that day, he wouldn’t be able to get to me since he was going on vacation. He told me to call AHS and have the service canceled.

So, I tried to go online and cancel and it wouldn’t allow me to. I attempted to call to speak with a representative to cancel and I called for three days straight and could not get anyone. I finally called the billing department and spoke with someone. Of course, they could not help me, and they tried to connect me with the correct department. The rep said that she would stay on the line with me. And so we stayed on the line at least half an hour, and I told her that it was exactly what I had been experiencing. I tried to go back online and see if I could cancel. It finally allowed me to cancel and I was able to schedule with someone else. That experience of trying to book someone was awful. The next contractor that came out was very nice. He came out and did the repairs and everything worked out just fine. He was very punctual.

Even my first experience with them with getting someone for my AC, I called back to try to get another contractor because I just wasn’t comfortable with the first contracted service that they were sending to me. I had done research on them and I was not comfortable with them, and it was almost like the rep was trying to force him to come to me, and I didn't want him to come and do the work on my house. I didn’t have a pleasant experience, and that was my very first service call.

And then, the next one with electrical, that experience happened with not being able to get impressed with anyone at American Home Shield. So, now, I have another one that’s in with plumbing and the guy is there trying to take care of my plumbing. I don't know if the items are gonna be covered and I'm hoping that it is with American Home Shield.

The dishwasher had a small leak underneath and it was a part that was worn out, and he fixed that right away. The refrigerator had a built-in water and ice dispenser. If you dispensed, it wouldn’t shut off like it was supposed to. He assessed the problem and determined it was a control panel type of thing in there. And so he ordered it, scheduled another appointment, came back, put it in and got it going with no problem. Since then, both the refrigerator and the dishwasher have been working fine. He did a great job. American Home Shield is a confident, professional organization. That was the first claim we filed since we took out the policy and we were well-pleased.

The pilot light had gone out in my hot water heater so it wasn’t keeping the water hot. I called American Home Shield and talked to a person then they assigned J.F. Whitlow, Jr. & Sons Inc. to me. It was on a Friday so I assumed that it was gonna be Monday when they would call me back. But once they sent me the email with the number of the company, I called them the next day and left them a message to make sure everything would happen. They called me back that Monday and they went out that Wednesday. They looked at the hot water heater and said I would need a new hot water heater. I asked when they thought it would be in. It was Tuesday then and they said it should be in by Thursday or Friday at the latest. It was a rental property and the tenant there has a five-year-old son who had to go to school. But they had no hot water and she couldn't give her son a bath.

The hot water heater hadn’t come by that Friday and when the tenant called me on Monday, she said she still didn't have any hot water. So I called J.F. Whitlow and they said it still hadn't come in. They told me it should be in any time. But I called back on the Friday of that following week and they said it still hadn't come in. They were saying that they were waiting on American Home Shield so I called the warranty company. But they said that all the contractor had to do was to go to Home Depot and pick the unit up. They didn't need to wait for it to come in. In the meantime, my tenant had been without hot water for two weeks. I called J.F. Whitlow back to tell them what they had to do and they said okay but that they couldn't get there on a Friday. And since they didn't work on Saturdays and they were booked on Monday, it would be Tuesday of the following week before they would get out there.

They went out that Tuesday and put it in. But once they did that, my tenant told me her heating was not working. It was working fine prior to them coming though. So I contacted a contractor to come out there to look at my furnace. When I was talking to him, I told him that the hot water heater had been replaced and before he came out and charged me, he told me that when you have a gas hot water heater and a gas furnace, there is a gas line and there are pipes next to both of those. He said that when you have to cut the gas off, it would cut off the heat for a while and you would have to bleed the air out of the line because if air gets in the line and you don’t bleed it out first, the gas is not gonna get there to ignite the power in the furnace and the heat won’t work.

So I called J.F. Whitlow back and told them that the heating was not working. The people there were like, “Yeah, it was working fine.” So they sent the plumbing people back to take a look at it. They said they had bled the line twice but the pilot light was still not lighting up the furnace. They said that there was nothing else they could do. They were trying to say it had nothing to do with the furnace not working. So I had to put in another claim to get the furnace fixed. I called American Home Shield and they said there would be another $75 charge for them to come back out because J.F. Whitlow was saying that one had nothing to do with the other.

The guy who came out to fix the furnace, Tony, said they had nothing to do with the plumbing with the same company and that that was a totally different side. He was like, “I understand your problem. I’ma get you taken care of.” He said that they didn't handle business like the plumbing side. He came out the same day and told me what was wrong. The gas line going to the furnace was bent and they had to replace that part. Tony said that it was a part that he had to get from the dealer and that he probably wouldn't be able to get it from the dealer until the next day. But then he called me back that same evening. That was a Friday and he said that he had gone to the dealer that day and that he had gotten the part. He came back to put it on and said the heater was working fine.

But I had to do a separate call just to get my furnace fixed. And at that point, my tenant had gone two and a half weeks without hot water and then she had days without heat. So I had to get things taken care of. I told her that for that whole month, because of the inconvenience, I was not gonna charge her any rent. So in addition to me having to pay on that side and for the inconvenience that my tenant had without heat and hot water, I lost $1,585 on the house.

Also, my thing is that when the plumbing guys cut the gas line on the hot water heater side, they must have bent the part that's going to the furnace. Those two guys were young so they may not have the tricks. Tony was an older guy and had a family so he knew the situation that my tenant and her son was in. I want to commend him too. He did an excellent job.

Having a warranty is really valuable. My mom moved out of our house in March and I had put a warranty on her house as well. Then we put some new tenants here in May and the guy said that the faucet was dripping. I forgot all about putting a home warranty and I ended up purchasing a faucet and putting a sink, and having the plumbing guy put it in. I spent about $500 on it. After that, the guy said that he was swelling a foul odor in the house. It was almost like something was dead in the house. So we hired somebody to go find it. But it turned out to be that the brass pipes were a little corroded. The house was built in '59 and back then, they used brass pipes. I cut out all the brass and put in all new PVC piping under of my mom’s house. That went to close to $4,000. I forgot that I had American Home Shield. I could’ve saved myself close to $4,500.

Constantly having trouble communicating with or contacting American Home Shield has been irritating. When I call in, there’s a 30-minute wait, if not, longer just to talk to somebody. I’ve not been able to get into my account and no one has been able to assist me with that. So when my refrigerator was running really loudly, I had no choice but to use the phone to submit my claim. Nevertheless, the service was fine. GE Appliances came out and the contractor did an excellent job. He was really courteous and professional, and he knew what he was doing. He examined the refrigerator, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. The refrigerator is running much better now and I don’t even hear it running.

He was very thorough, took his time in doing the work and was very careful about everything that he worked for us. Though he had to order parts, he came back two days later which was quicker than I thought. Since the repair, the dryer is working like new again.

We had a problem with our refrigerator. I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. The techs who came over were great. They had to replace the froster part of the refrigerator freezer. They did a good job. However, it took two visits because they had to order a part. It took them a week to come back because it was over the Christmas holiday. But that interval didn't cause any issues because they fixed it enough so it would work in the meantime. After the repair, the refrigerator has been working fine.

The first time I submitted a claim, I was not happy with the experience. But after finally getting a claim through, it worked out and I was happy with it. After submitting the claim, I got an email from the contractor within an hour. They were efficient, polite and very helpful. I would like to use them again if I needed to. But they have to replace two items and we are still waiting for it.

AHS need to improve on their call volume. It's just too high. One day, I've been trying to get through them for four hours. But when I called in recently, they now have an option where you can have them call you back if the wait time is too long. I appreciate that option because it worked out well. That way, I didn’t have to keep holding and get frustrated. At one point, I was considering to no longer use their service but after using them and it worked out well, I will continue on them at this point.

Thereafter, the contractors came out and they told me about the equipment that I had, and customarily, how long it would take for the parts to come in. They said that when it came in, they would come out, put the part and fix the problem. It took a couple of weeks. If I had filed separate claims, the microwave might have gotten fixed faster as they had to wait on the other part for the dryer.

I have American Home Shield. Have had it for 8 months and 12 days ago my furnace stopped working, I put in a service call a contractor came out and after looking at my furnace for exactly 5 mins did not pull apart anything and tell me and my husband we need a new furnace and it’s gonna cost us 1000$ out of pocket. We knew he was full of crap since my husband is knows a little bit about our furnace and that he did not even look at our heat exchanger to see if it was bad. So Home Shield says to replace our furnace they will pay 492$ and we will have to pay 1000$ and this contractor is very rude!

Obviously I am upset, what is the point in having insurance if I have to spend 1000$. We ask for a second opinion. These guys come out years apart our entire furnace and says it just needs a blower motor. I’m assuming that was more than Home Shield wanted to spend because they sent it back to the first contractor because obviously the way he wrote it up was in their benefit, meanwhile it’s January in Ohio and we have been completely without heat for 12 days now and them still giving us the run around and we have called them at least 5 times and every time we call we have to have them call us back because it’s a 40 min wait or longer because they have a high call volume! This is how they treat their customers!!! Shame on them!!

Recently we found out that our policy had bee canceled and found out that it was done due to an audit on how much we have used our policy and how much money was spent. We called AHS to renew our policy and found out that due to the audit, we would be allowed to have a different policy that was 40% more expensive with decreased level of coverage. I understand insurance companies raising premiums when policies are used more than normal, but I don't understand how they increase the monthly fees and then decrease the coverage. When we asked the operator to explain this, it was clear that they did not understand. Needless to say, we will find another company that doesn't penalize customers for using their warranty for its intended purpose.

I called American Home Shield a couple of days before Christmas. I went outside to feed the horse, and I noticed there was smoke coming out the AC unit. I got over there, and the fans weren't running, but I could smell burnt wire coming out. So I immediately turned the heater off and didn't run it for days until someone came out. The guy came three days after Christmas and he fixed it. I didn't need to run anything until a couple of days after he left. But when I did, the unit was so loud. You could hear it outside. It's so loud that when I'm sleeping at night and it cuts on, I can hear it, and I can't go back to sleep. The guy came back out here for the AC. He said that he couldn't help me because it was an older unit. I told him that it wasn't making that noise until he came to fix it. But he replied that he couldn't do anything else.

American Home Shield is a rip off. I was not happy with my service. I am trying to get a hold of someone from them for 30 minutes a day and I have not been able to get through. It is very frustrating. I'm trying to get a hold of somebody who knows what they're doing except for that same guy twice. I'm not getting anywhere with that guy. Any time I go online, they want me to pay another $75 deductible, and I'm not doing that because the guy who came and fixed it made the AC worse.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is easy. I just called it in and told them I was dealing with my plumbing. I had a blockage in my sink and it was draining into my bathtub. They told me that somebody will call me back, which Plumb Genius did. And they scheduled an appointment for the plumber to come out. He scheduled something for the next day but something happened. He was supposed to come in the morning but he came in the afternoon, but it was still great. When the plumber came out, he went straight to the issue and saw the problem. He used the snake to go ahead and break through. He then came back and told me what was the issue. He also quickly answered a lot of questions that I have about this plumbing issue.

Because of my experience with AHS, I tell everybody about it. I tell them that if they don't have a home warranty, they need one. I'd then tell them about how much it is. But in the long run, when something breaks down, they only have to pay a certain amount of money. And I do like the part now that I didn’t have to write a check out to the person that comes. They ask whether or not you’re gonna pay before or 48 hours after the person has come out and I like that a lot.

There was a leaky faucet and two faucets that were loose. The water pressure valve also needed to be re-adjusted. Submitting the claim to AHS online was easy with respect to the faucet. However, I wanted to explain my problem with the valve but I couldn't do it. I had to call them and explain to AHS what the problem was for the valve. And that caused a little problem with the plumber because they didn't get the correct work order with the valve pressure.

What happened was when I spoke with the plumber, I said that I couldn't find the valve or an explanation on the water pressure. They said I needed to call back AHS and tell them that it's the water pressure and not the faucet. That took extra effort but it's fine. I called AHS and they were quick and made the changes. They put me on hold and contacted the contractor. The rep got back and got all of the correct information and we were good to go. AHS does a good job listing everything so you can pick and choose your issues online. But in my opinion, they can add another box that says, "Other," then you check that and explain what the problem is.

Other than that, I got a prompt response from the plumber and we set an appointment. I received a call from the plumber and then I received a text where I could track the plumber where he was. He replaced a part of the faucet within the shower. He looked at the pressure and he said it was okay. But after he looked at it, it seems like we were having hammerings when you shut off the water. That stopped after he looked at it. He was also able to put something on the other faucets that were loose. He tightened them and they seem to be working fine.

The disposal was not working properly and it was extremely loud. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out Thomas Brothers Plumbing. Brett, the technician, first looked through the top portion of the disposal and said that it was rusting. Then, he opened it underneath and checked all the plumbing. Everything was tight and looked good. After that, he ran the machine, ran some water down through it, and it was really loud. As he was looking underneath, he said that the ball bearings were starting to fail and it was not gonna last. So, he went ahead and replaced the entire unit with a good one.

At the time, he originally had another disposal in his truck and it was a 1/3 power which was the one that was failing. But I had recommendations from a previous plumber that I used in my prior home to get an ISE 1/3 power and not to get anything less than a 1/2 power. I mentioned that to Brett and he said that I might have to pay the difference on it but that it depended on my contract with American Home Shield. He also said that he didn't have one, so he could either go get one or I'd have one that I already picked out in mind. He also said that it would be fine if I wanna find one on my own and to just give him a call. So, he went ahead and left.

The next day. I was out running errands and I told him I would get one the next day and call him. But he called me before I even made it to Home Depot and said not to worry about it as he'd go get one for me. Then, he clarified for me the model and brand that I was looking for, and said he'd pick up that half horsepower one for me and call me with the installation time. So, he picked the one up, called me back later that day, and scheduled to install it the following day. When he arrived, he brought a 3/4 horsepower instead of the half power. It’s the newest one on the market for the InSinkErator brand, which was what I asked for. He installed it and everything was great. American Home Shield covered the entire cost and there was no difference that I had to pay.

Prior to that claim on my disposal, I originally called AHS for the dishwasher. The dishwasher was original with the house, was about 11 years old, and was not cleaning dishes even though we were rinsing them before putting them in. They would still come out with scum on them. So, I called AHS and they sent a technician out. He did a few different tests on it and said that the control unit needed to be replaced. He said he would be talking to American Home Shield, tell them what was wrong, and confirm that ordering the part was covered. He did that but he never called me back and told me anything.

I tried to contact American Home Shield to see what was going on and I had to call them three times. I also logged online and talked to somebody via their chat system before the service tech called me back. He said that he ordered the part and it’d be here by the end of the week. I originally placed my original service request in November and the part arrived three weeks later. Then the tech came and installed that. He said it should be fine and asked me to go ahead and use it. But I didn’t have any dishes to do at the time, so he told me to run it and let him know what happened. Since it’s a Bosch dishwasher, I figured I’d treat it like my prior Bosch that I had at my other house. It scraped off everything but didn’t rinse the dishes. It didn’t wash them, just put them all in, and they came out dirty. So, I called the tech again and told him that it wasn’t working. I had to call him three times and leave him voicemails. Still, I didn’t get a call from him.

So, I had to contact American Home Shield to tell them about the situation. They got ahold of him and he finally reacted and came out on on the 18th of December. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it and that he'd call American Home Shield to tell them that the control unit should’ve fixed it. But it didn’t and he was just gonna list it as low performance. I asked him pointblank before he left to please call me back with the status of his conversation with American Home Shield but he never did.

I ended up calling American Home Shield again after having logged into the account and it still said that the claim was under review online. But when I spoke with one of their representatives, he said that it was marked as closed and everything was functioning. But I told them that it was not functioning and I was handwashing all of my dishes. The rep then said that he'd call and get a more definitive diagnosis of it so that if it needed to be replaced, they'd know what the diagnosis was. I agreed and told him to let me know but I still haven’t heard from him. This was before Christmas when I called them and it’s January now. This tech also told me that he’s one of the primary local techs for this area for all of the kitchen appliances, except for the dishwasher because that’s considered plumbing. But I would never want him back for anything. If my refrigerator died, there’s no way that I’d call him back.

That last time I called American Home Shield, they never called me back. By the time the three days had gone by, I was ready to call them again but all of a sudden, the heater was working.

My husband is in hospice, so we had to go out and buy a bunch of space heaters to keep the house warm because of this silly heater situation. The techs were very nice, and they tried. When they leave, it’s working. But it works for two or three days and then stops again, and then it comes back on. They changed the thermostat, and then it worked, but the same pattern happened. It worked for three or four days and then stopped. It was off for about five or six days, and then it started again. But overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. I didn't realize that our AC was not working because we had cooler weather here, so there was really no need for the AC. Then, when it started getting warmer, I noticed for three nights that it felt pretty warm and muggy. I looked at our thermostat and it said it was 79 degrees in the house. I filed the claim to AHS on a weekend. I tried calling to see if maybe somebody can come out sooner because it's just hot and miserable. But they ended up coming out first thing Monday, earlier than expected. They called ahead of time and let us know that somebody would be able to come earlier than the expected time that they had said previously. The only downfall with that is that they're not willing to come out on the weekend. It wasn't a ridiculous amount of time that we waited, but it was still a little longer than what I would have liked.

Other than that, submitting the claim to AHS online was really easy. I was looking to get a phone number, but I ended up finding the link to file a claim instead. The contractor, Family A/C, was very professional, very friendly and informative. They fixed the AC and it was working right away. They were also in and out pretty quickly. The gentleman who came out also mentioned that I'd end up having to replace my AC unit because, in 2020, the one that I have right now is gonna be obsolete. He won't be able to legally carry the Freon that goes in my AC unit.

He explained to me what he had done and then he left. That was over the Christmas holidays so we had no ice for Christmas. It took about two weeks and a half to be completed. Nonetheless, it went well.

My dryer wasn’t coming on and I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield online and it was easy. They gave me within 24 hours for the contractor to reach out but it was over the holidays, so it was a little longer and that was understandable. When the contractor came, they had to order a part and they had to come back a week later but they were fast and they got the job done. AHS was also able to send somebody out to fix my washer back in October and that has been working ever since.

I have been using American Home Shield for about 10 years and I'm happy with them. Recently I called AHS and told them what the problem was. They hooked me up with their local repair man. The fellow was from AG Appliance Repair. He came out and repaired my clothes dryer. He was here twice. He had to check it out and determine that he needed a new part and then he came back and installed the part in 10 minutes.

We lost all the power in the outlets in the garage. I could turn on lights and stuff, but the outlets to plug something in were not working. We submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and someone reached out to us quickly. It took about a day or two. It wasn't an emergency, so when we put in the claim, it took a while before the electrician came over. He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. He was on task and did what he needed to do. The issue had something to do with the circuit breaker. Since the repair, the performance of the outlets has been perfect.

The heat pump wasn’t working. The guy AHS sent came out the next day. He said that the circuit breaker was probably bad and that I'd have to call an electrician. I called an electrician and he said that the circuit breaker was good. It was a blown fuse outside on the heat pump. He put some new fuses in, but the heat pump still didn’t work. The contractor has been out several times, ordering parts, and it's still not working. Another time, I had called AHS. I had a leak upstairs, in the bathtub. An elbow that came out. The guy was here for about five minutes. He looked at it and said I needed a whole new tub. All it was was a drain though and I fixed it myself.

When I submit a claim, I usually start off trying to call American Home Shield, but it was too long a wait. I went online to do it because that seemed to be the quickest way. In fact, when my spa heater needed a part, I made my schedule online. The gentleman from At Your Pool Service, LLC came out, ordered the part, came back and put it in. He was very professional and he went through the steps, reminding me how it turns on and labelling the parts for me. I appreciated it. I’ve had a couple of other experiences with AHS, and they’ve all been good. The people I met were all very professional, polite, courteous, and knowledgeable. I’m really pleased and I would recommend AHS.

It has been the worst experience ever with American Home Shield and I would feel horrible if anybody that I cared about went through what I went through. Our faucets are all TouchPlus and they’re beautiful, but my stainless-steel Moen kitchen faucet was replaced with a piece of plastic. They do commercial grade. I work in the building and I don’t know where anybody would put the faucet that I have in my home right now in an office complex or in a gas station bathroom. But I had a Moen that was $80 taken out and the plumber who was sent output in a set that was no more than $25. It’s the ugliest and I don’t care about that kind of stuff. I looked at it and thought that was insane. It was fine at that time, but then my husband came home, saw it and said no. However, there wasn't anything we could do and American Home Shield doesn’t offer any upgrade fees.

The plumber left and there was a leak that I didn’t know about that he caused. But over the weekend when I went to check things out, it was sopping wet underneath my sink. We have a very old house and it’s wood underneath the sink, so the leak is going to cause damage for sure. I have no clue if they’re gonna be repairing that when they come back today, but I am way too nice about it because our house is older and I understand that people get into a trap with a much bigger issue. I have pictures that I will be putting up on their website as soon as he leaves my home today. But what’s really sad is that they’re very proud to represent American Home Shield, and when you go to their website, it’s the first thing that’s booming across the bottom of their link.

I called American Home Shield to let them know what was going on, and I spoke to four different customer service professionals, the last of which was a team lead. They’re trained to say, “Let me repeat what you’ve just said” and it’s really annoying. But I’ve been in customer service since I was 16 and I’m 40 years old, and I’m not stupid. So I stopped her 35 times to say if they would say that one more time, they should not have to repeat to me.

The plumber was supposed to come out on Thursday but he got held up at a three-hour job. Then on Friday, it was raining here in Jacksonville, and it was dark. I didn’t hear from him all day, so at 6 o’clock, I told him that he could come the next morning of Saturday. Then he was on his way Saturday at 12:30 but he was having some issues with his truck. I never heard back from him until 6:30 Saturday night and this morning, I called the main office about 35 times from work. Finally, the owner picked up and he said that Brandon was going up to my house at noon today to fix it.

I followed up on this issue the entire time. I have no flexibility with my job and I had to take a half-day vacation. I was gonna call American Home Shield once I go home to wait for him because I need to speak to someone in the United States. The other problem with American Home Shield is that they have their call services out in India and the people don’t know how to speak English. I’m paying American Home Shield $45 a month and I paid $100 for this guy to come out. I’ve wasted my own personal time, in general, and on top of that, I paid $70 for my own faucet. I’ve had to pay way more than I should’ve.

This experience really makes me think about having a home warranty. If I have a brand-new air-conditioning unit, there’s no reason why I should have a warranty because I would rather have Roto-Rooter or someone with a really good name. All home warranty companies are the same. They use little companies all over the cities that they’re in and they find people that literally only have a Facebook website. That’s my biggest annoyance with all of this and it’s been happening right now. American Home Shield has a 4.8 out of 5 stars and they’re supposed to be one of the best, but I am so outraged and I feel like I’m owed my money back for my faucet. I won’t be using American Home Shield again after my contract is out, and I will definitely be shopping.

The experience with American Home Shield's contractor, Quality Comfort went well, although the problem had recurred, so they have to come back. On the other hand, the experience with American Home Shield itself went less well. It is very difficult to reach American Home Shield by phone. You can reach them online and that’s fine, but all you get are automated responses. The first time I went online and booked the claim, they put me in touch with a service provider whose office base is literally two and a quarter hours away.

They do not service my geography, but they made a special attempt about once every seven days or so to show up in our area. It is an automated system that American Home Shield has and I finally got to speak to an agent, and I said that it was not going to work because the service provider is two and a quarter hours away. They were not gonna show up. The rep said that there was nothing she could do about it and I said, “Okay. Let me speak to a manager.”

She put me on hold for about six minutes then finally came back and said that she got someone to talk to me. What she actually did was dump me back into a queue where I waited in a call queue for about 10 minutes, listening to whatever background was going on on that, until I finally hung up. I was then able to reach the provider and I asked them, “Okay. When is the earliest you can come?” Sure enough, they gave me a date that was roughly eight days later. I said that it was not going to work. The provider said that there was nothing they could do and that I gotta call American Home Shield and tell them that it was the date they were giving me and AHS got to make the change.

I had to go back into AHS' crazy 800 number system, wait for another 15 to 20 minutes, and finally got to speak to someone. That time, because I had called the provider and the provider told me it was gonna take eight days, AHS finally was able to give me the person that I suggested in the first place who is about 10 minutes away from my home. Quality Comfort showed up the next day.

The problem with American Home Shield is there is no way to talk to anybody. It happens every time and once you get through to someone they are not prepared to listen. There’s no way to talk to anybody and you get the runaround. In my opinion, the service is very poor on the phone to find and reach someone or electronically. If they were to electronically show you, “Okay, here’s a choice of three providers in your area. Which one is closest? Which one would you like,” and you could pick it, then that would be a significant enhancement. But right now, even though they’ve got a provider, Quality Comfort that’s less than 10 or 15 minutes from my house, they keep on insisting on trying to connect me to someone who is literally two and a quarter hours away near Charlotte, North Carolina.

After many years that I’ve had three homes covered by AHS -- one rental home and two personal homes, but because I can’t get through, I’m contemplating terminating the service. I haven't as yet, but I might and I might go to a different provider. If you can’t get through at a point when you need it, then what’s the point of having the service? Nobody is prepared to listen. Quality Comfort did a great job. They were fantastic and very responsive and were very good at what they do, but the trouble is American Home Shield was gonna connect me with someone in Charlotte or wherever near Charlotte and there was nobody I could ever talk to that could understand and resolve the issues in a timely way.

Our water heater leaked all over the garage. It was scary because we had to call the gas company and find out what to do because it could blow. I reported it online to AHS and I also called them. After being on hold for about an hour and 15 minutes they said they would get it done but they weren't real nice. They didn't have any professionalism. Sometimes, when you call AHS and you have a claim, it sounds like you're getting somebody out of the country that can barely speak English. They're not real problem solvers. So you have to really call back a different time and see if you can get American people to talk to you.

With the water heater, it was really weird, because it was a year short of their warranty running out. But Tony was a nice person, and he did go and pick it up and help me with the warranty part of it. They charged him $50 to pick it up because that was a prorated warranty, and I thought that was good. But I don't know if American Home Shield is gonna reimburse him the $50 or not. He was really worried about it. There was no way they could fix it. I understand that I have to pay for the permits and stuff like that, and that cost me over $275, and then $125 to American Home Shield. Tony wanted me to pay him the $50, and I said no and to bill AHS for it because it was a pretty good deal for them, that they didn't have to buy a new one. The replacement process took about a week. The tech was very professional, very friendly and he did a good job.

Had to request refund. 2) Appliances (oven/refrigerator). Sent out one repair service who couldn't complete job. Request sent to another company who couldn't provide service either (contacted us on 1/7/18 3 weeks later). Contacted AHS. Spent 5 hours of my time (my wife had already spent more than that) on phone, chat room, etc. trying to resolve problem. No one could resolve issue. Tried requesting supervisor/manager to speak with. Got nothing but the runaround. Ended up requesting full refund of contract money and service co-pay amounts because basically NOTHING was done and COULD NOT get done. Calling either customer service number is a JOKE. I'm not sure if this is an attempt to encourage (force) people to use the online option. Nonetheless, I called one number from my work phone and one from my cell phone, and BOTH had me on hold for over an hour. I just put them on the speaker and let it play. When I finally got a CSR, we got disconnected after about 8 minutes. Despite having confirmed my phone number at the beginning of the call, he didn't bother to call me back.

After speaking to the originally assigned company directly, they said that AHS canceled my request. No idea why, but I certainly did NOT ask for that to happen. So I called AHS back, only to be left on hold yet again. While waiting with my call on speaker again, I noticed that the online chat happened to actually be available for change. The wait time was about 5-10 minutes. That CSR put an expedited request through, but omitted some parts of the initial request, so we'll see how that plays out.

** A previous service contractor that I was assigned was great. I requested him again, but they couldn't locate him in their system. Hopefully, this will go smoothly. ** If I can find another company with the same type of service plans, I'm gone - just like the 2 hours of my day today that I can't get back. The frustration from the customer service reps is not worth it.

I have had this for warranty for about a year now. My first service went well. This time around, I was very disappointed with the process and the poor quality and lack of knowledge the technicians had. My dishwasher went out and three times a technician came out: One from one company and twice from another company. They tried to say that the dishwashing leaking was a plumbing problem, so we called out two separate plumber and to get a second opinion and an insurance adjuster because of water leaking underneath cabinet. AHS tech continued to say it was a plumbing problem and eventually sent a letter said that the service was not a covered service.

I called them several times to explain that their technical was in error, but they were refused to hear my concern and continued to talk over me. By this time, I was outraged and angry. We ended up calling out an independent tech, who verified it was the dishwasher and not a plumbing problem. I called AHS and asked them to honor the cost of the invoice, they would not because I did not get prior approval.

Well, I called them several times, and they refused to hear my concerns and they did not care that their Tech was wrong. I immediately cancelled my policies that I had with all my properties they were covering. I felt disrespected and the process was handled very unprofessionally, and they simply acted as if they did to care. In addition, the initial employee that I was dealing with until I asked for manager, as well as the manager barely spoke English, so there was a huge language barrier. NOT HAPPY with this recent experience. I am searching for a top rated company now.

We purchased a home warranty, and have not had a good experience with their vendors or their service after the sale. Trying to call in and check on our service request is a joke. We were placed in a vm loop that told us we had over an hour to wait to speak to representative. WHO HAS TIME FOR THAT? And it wasn't just once. This has been 5 calls now, and it's every time you have this extraordinary wait time. They intentionally set up their system to make it difficult to speak to anyone by simply not answering any calls and not giving you any option to really contact them. Their website says you can contact them, but in reality you can't. Check it out yourself. You can only call, and that's over an hour wait. The chat function doesn't work - it appears and then disappears. There is no email contact form. There is no email address to send them anything. And, their website does not allow any direct customer feedback. "Contact Us" gets you nowhere!

In addition, when we did have an issue, they sent a vendor who tried to invalidate the warranty we had paid for by saying our spa pump had "Excessive Use". How can we excessively use a spa we just bought, a warranty we just bought? We requested a 2nd vendor look at it, and they found nothing of the sort. So, the first guy was just writing an evaluation to make American Home Shield not have to pay out. How shady! A customer should be able to speak to a representative whenever they call in a timely manner. They should be able to trust that the vendors aren't just going to try and invalidate a warranty to save AHS for having to pay out on their own warranties. Horrible!!!

Determined they needed parts (as expected), two weeks later parts arrive followed by the technician the next week. He can't install the parts since he needs a special tool that he doesn't have. Why they don't know they needs special tools for a Viking unit is of concern. It takes several weeks to obtain the tool because the service company needed special permission to order the tool. This I found out after several calls and 1 hour on-hold on the phone.

The tool finally arrives followed again by the technician for another visit. The ordered tool is not correct, clearly for a completely different burner assembly. They need to order another tool, they are clearly not sure which one. Tried calling AHS but was placed on hold for over 30 minutes. Called again and received option for a callback, tried this route. An hour later I receive a call, the robot askes if I still need customer service. After indicating yes, it places me on hold. 30 minutes later nothing. Unbelievable!!

First, let me preface this by saying it's been 11 days since my hot water heater burst and I still don't have hot water. On 12/27 my water heater broke. I called. Was on hold 20 mins and hung up. Placed an online service request and was given an appointment a week later with GMI Plumbing. Day before my appointment, called AHS to see if they can help me narrow the plumbing window (which was 9 am - 2 pm). 30 mins on hold with AHS to be told that they couldn't get through to GMI plumbing.

Tod from GMI finally came out, he walked in, snapped a photo. Didn't bring any tools. Didn't leave a diagnosis or estimate. I received a bill from AHS requesting payment and also AHS said work order was closed. Called again - on hold this time for 43 mins. Tried explaining to the lady what happened. She hung up on me. Called AHS again today. Apologies and switched to a new plumber. Fingers crossed and we'll see.

Soon after the closing on our in Maine we purchased a policy from American Home Shield to cover appliances and major equipment in our home. On July 20, 2018 I made a request online for repair of my stove top burner, my oven door hinges and my vent fan blower and was given a number of a repair service. By November we still had not received any service and I started to call AHS. Each time on the phone I was put on hold for progressively long times and, "Too sorry for your frustration. I will take care of the problem." In mid December I requested to speak to a manager who then told me she had to speak to someone else. For the first time we got a phone call back saying the repairs were authorized and parts had been ordered and would be arriving in 5 to 7 days. By this time it was Christmas and the hinges on my oven door had failed completely and the door was sitting on the floor of the laundry room (no turkey dinner).

I have since been on the phone again for hours and been told that the parts have arrived and this would be taken care of and we would receive a phone call back. I have been in touch with the repair service which has contradicted AHS statements - no he does not have all the parts and no they have not authorized service. Now I have looked on my account and they claim the repairs have been completed and we owe them a $100 for the second service call when NO service calls have been done. I had made two hour long phone call on the overdue notice, told each time that would be taken care of and it still is on my account page. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with any company. I personally believe we deserve a full refund but that would take so many more hours on the phone and months of frustration. There is apparently no way of getting in touch by e-mail.

PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!! I've been waiting for 3 months for a service requested to be completed that I've paid for repairs on. Please beware when researching this home warranty company as they are only as good as the service providers they contract with. Unfortunately the service provider (Sears) that was contracted to repair an oven door in my home has been unable to deliver the replacement parts required for repair. AHS is aware that they cannot get the parts and they have not been able to provide me with an alternative service provider and now 3 months after my initial service request, that have yet to replace or repair my oven door.

We were first time home buyers and AHS was recommended by our realtor, so we wanted to secure our investment and make sure we were doing everything we could as new home buyers to cover the existing appliances in our home. How wrong we were to go with this home warranty company as we have paid all our premiums and service request fees ($80.00/request) and still have had to get local contractors to make the repairs AHS contractors could not. We have had a few service requests that resulted in us learning that the items requested weren't in contract due to us not having certain components in place (clean out valves on very old plumbing) and plaster walls that they aren't authorized to cut through to reach a leaky pipe. We have had to contact local service providers for at least 2 other service requests that AHS sent out providers to repair, but were told that for one reason or the next, they weren't authorized to repair.

We have a 75yr old home and were not aware that there would be so many issues with the age of our house and what AHS actually would cover or not. I read the contract many times before signing up and none of this is explicitly explained in the "what's covered" section. Also most of the service providers that AHS sent to our home were from an hour or more away and it was very difficult to coordinate service repairs due to this. You have no control over the companies that they contract with and who is actually sent out to your home to do the repairs. One such company had terrible reviews and provided terrible service to me and I had to find a local contractor to simply snake my kitchen drain that was backing up because of the aforementioned situation regarding the plumbing in my home.

In my opinion, AHS may have great reviews but don't be fooled...you will only receive the minimum amount of repairs on any item you request service on and even then may have to search elsewhere to get the item properly repaired. We have learned the hard way after multiple service requests and those repair people coming to our home only to tell us that the item is not covered...after we paid for the service repair fee. Y'all...it just ain't good. Better to contract with local, trusted companies in your town that you know have a good reputation and gives you the control over who is coming to your home to service your appliances. Left up to AHS, they just do not get the job done right.

We have had American Home Shield for a few years. Things started ok. They fixed a garage door and a doorbell. BUT when our refrigerator broke 3 times in 3 months they sent horrible service people - one told us to "think positive thoughts" about our broken fridge. We have now been without a refrigerator for 17 days straight. Overall we have been without a working refrigerator for 6 weeks on and off due to incompetent vendors. To top it all off we have paid $300 on top of our monthly AHS service charge. Point is - AHS is a rip-off. You never know if you are going to get a good vendor and if you don't, get ready to shell out a lot of cash for NOTHING.

I waited through two winters working off expensive 'emergency heat' setting on my heat pump waiting for AHS to authorize replacement even after 2 different contractors said it could not be fixed. Constantly losing paperwork, waiting 20-30 minutes on hold, many of the CSRs would not say anything but 'it's being reviewed' and yet would not allow me to attempt to speak with someone who could tell me why it was taking so long. I was fed up and angry enough at one point to ask for the corporate phone number and was told they don't have one. Really? A Fortune 500 company and they don't have a corporate phone number? Two of my contractors told me hey didn't need the business that bad to put up with dealing with AHS and told me to find someone else to do the work.

The pattern I saw was 1. Be told send a document by scan. 2 Send document the same day. 3. Be told it wasn't received despite having a read receipt automatically generated from the address sent. 4. Next be told to fax it. 5. Be told at least 3 times the fax was not received even though you have the transmission report. 6. Be told that fax number has not been in service for a year or more. 7. Be told to mail the paper form to their Customer Service office but not being allowed to identify a specific recipient - it would have to go through the regular mail sort and eventually end up on someone's desk that has no idea what had been going on and is in no rush at all to make a decision.

    8. Being told on several occasions the form was never received or discarded because the service was not approved at the time they received the documentation. (That's the reason I was told to send the documentation - to be able to get the authorization!) Of the 34 (yes, 34) calls I made between the initial service call and when I got the service authorized and scheduled, there were maybe 3 CSRs that were helpful. One because she was waiting for 2 months for them to fix one of her appliances and she was empathetic. Once it was installed, I submitted the documentation within 24 hours for reimbursement (I had to pay out of pocket because the reputation of AHS with the contractors I used was so bad, they wouldn't accept the job otherwise). When I submitted it, I was told 7-10 business days for reimbursement.

Two weeks later I was told 20-24 business days. Two weeks later I was told it could take up to 45 business days and oh, by the way, the documents the previous CSRs referred to when discussing reimbursement, now had mysteriously disappeared and had to be resubmitted. Nearly 3 months after the work was done, I finally received the reimbursement I had initially been promised within about 2 weeks. AHS consistently had the worst service and most customer un-friendly policies of any business I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. And if you stop your contract before the end (even though they advertise it as 'cancel anytime'), if you have had service done during the contract period, they charge you back the balance of the contract. Good riddance to American Home Shield!

I got on the phone with American Home Shield since there was a leak in my hot water heater. The claims submission was very easy. When I called to say I was already up and was waiting for a technician, a guy was free and he came over right away. That was good. The guy was very professional. He replaced the copper tubing with PVC and there won't be any more leakage. During the repair, he did something and broke the other side of the water heater, but he fixed that right away. Everything is fine.

We've used the warranty about 10 times and having it has been very valuable for me. I normally submit my claims online because no one ever answers the phone. Then they just sent a text saying who the contractor was. When we had two leaks, the contractor came out the next morning and he was very good. The leaks were on the filter and on the pump. The guy replaced an O-ring, and another part. The repair stopped the leak and I don't see any problems since then.

When the heating unit wasn't working at all, I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and I was able to get a person on the line to whom I complained about the furnace and the AC leak. The contractor, Nu-Air Heating and Cooling, called and came out the next day to service the heater. Since the repair, everything has been okay because I haven’t gotten any calls from my tenants who are staying there. Overall, having a warranty is good and serves me on bad times. People should sign up with AHS for peace of mind.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield always goes pretty smoothly. They just make the call, and then, I'm contacted by their people doing the work, and they set up an appointment. The guy who came over for my AC was great. He came in, found the problem and he had the part on his truck. He changed a relay, and he was in and out in about 40 minutes. I was really impressed by his professionalism. It was a good experience. I have had American Home Shield for about 12 years and they have always treated me very well.

My washing machine wasn't working. The tub, without the sensor, would cause the washing machine to rock back and forth and make a whole lot of noise, and the washing machine wouldn't flow automatically to the next cycle. It would wash the clothes, then I would have to put it on the rinse cycle. I would have to put it on the spin and drain cycle in order to wash the clothes.

I called in a claim to American Home Shield for my washing machine on October the 20th, but I did not get my new washing machine from American Home Shield until January the 4th. The reps were nice, but I was very disappointed that it took that long to make the determination to give me the new washing machine and for me to actually get it. But the contractors sent were good. They told me from the beginning that I needed a new washing machine. If I would not have had American Home Shield, I would have just gone out and bought a new washing machine right from the beginning.

About the same time that I reported my washing machine I also reported that my dishwasher was broken. The repairman came from Suretec. He determined that the dishwasher needed to be replaced because I had reported the problem previously, where the electronic circuit board had been changed that made the dishwasher working, but it still wasn't. It took from October 20th to December 27th for me to get my new dishwasher. I am happy with my new washing machine and my new dishwasher, but I'm unhappy that it took that long to get it resolved.

I recently sent in a claim with them when my water heater was leaking. I spoke with one of their representatives and she was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, professional, and very kind. J&C Plumbing Service was the repair company that came out and they were great. They did what they said they were gonna do. They called me quickly, ordered what I needed, and got the right thing in. The guy came out when he said he was gonna come out and got the thing installed. So far, everything seems to be working as it should - I have hot water and nothing is leaking.

It was New Year's Eve then and I wasn't expecting for someone to come until after the New Year, but the guy from BNK Plumbing was here in two and a half hours. He arrived on time, and was very professional and polite. He really took a look at the issue and was able to fix it in 15 minutes. He had an electric router which is a long, electric snake that you put down the drain and unclogs it.

They did an estimate and two days later, they came out and rebuilt the water heater because it was not up to the code. They did all of it and had it all done in about three hours. The contractors were very professional, friendly and courteous. They would ask what they needed and then they'd go ahead and finish what they were doing. My most recent claim was for a wine cooler that failed, and AHS sent out a contractor to repair it. He did, but it failed again. He was terrific and a fantastic repairman though. He has done other items of work under the contract for us with refrigeration and he's very good. He's very timely and always lets us know when he's gonna be coming. It was determined that an additional part was needed for the wine cooler. The additional part was no longer obtainable though so we purchased a new wine cooler and AHS reimbursed us.

I called AHS and the woman told me what I had to do. She told me that I would have to buy the item first, up to $1,000. She also told me exactly what kind of documentation they would need and that I would need the invoice, the payment and the warranty from the manufacturer's book that came with the item. I had to make a PDF of it and send it to them by email, which is what I did. The experience was very nice. AHS did what they said they'd do, and their response has been fairly rapid each time there has been an issue.
