First off, this is a B rated company by the Better Business Bureau. That should be a warning. Something essential (Like my well pump) isn't covered by any of their standard plans unless you pay extra. Also, they will only cover a septic/sump pump for the first year? Even if you continue your plan? The customer service rep (Nickie) was completely unwilling to work with me on the flexibility of their plans. This company seems to have some shady practices. I would beware.
Hi, Jake. Our plans are set up based on what we cover and the cost. You are correct, there isn't much flexibility.

A repairman sent by AHS did a faulty job on my washing machine which resulted in three rooms of my house flooding. I called AHS and all they tell is that they are "not responsible for water damage." The machine is NOT fixed and they had the audacity to charge me the $75 trade service fee. I still have a broken washing machine and now a partially flooded home. Horrible company. Horrible services.

Phone service/30-40 min wait every time I call. Sent out (one star) company 3x for a toxic furnace smell. All three servicemen said nothing wrong with furnace. This was going on for a month. 2 days after the last contractor reassured me the smell was perfectly "normal" our home was Evacuated due to high levels of Carbon Monoxide. Several people sick one with ER visit. Finally insisted they send out another company (which I asked for multiple times) and the last contractor found high levels of co and a cracked heat exchange. Low quality service, on hold for excessive amounts of time, poor quality contractors, no protocol for repeated, urgent calls, biggest headache ever, almost killed our family.

Our furnace went out right after Christmas last year. I called AHS. A repairman was sent to the house and furnace could not be repaired. New one ordered by AHS and we still waiting with no heat. I called AHS multiple times. No return call. Or I get hung up on by the company. They tell repair company that furnace has been sent but cannot provide tracking number or who carrier is. Worst company I have ever had to deal with. Today is January 31, 2019 -11 degrees and I called AHS was told I would be called back in ten minutes. That was eight hours ago. Terrible terrible service.

We had an issue with our double oven. AHS was responsive and replaced the oven. It was shipped and supposed to be installed. The company delivering the oven would not install it due to the fact it was hard wired into the house circuit. The company sent someone who was incapable or unwilling to install our oven. I wrote a review about it. I received a call from a media specialist for AHS. She was understanding and said we could work out getting it installed.
At the time, our kitchen had begun restoration for a water leak and mold. She said to call her back when the kitchen was completed as she would keep the claim open. Granted, it has been 3 months and our kitchen is still not completed, but I have been trying to contact her for 2 weeks via email and telephone. I have not received any response to my requests. I am extremely disappointed in AHS due to this fact. I expect at least a phone call to review the claim and where we are on it. AHS is failing us on this claim. (This is the only claim I have had a problem with, but it is kind of a big item, as they have been excellent except for this one).
Hello, Barry. Thank you for letting me know your issue has been resolved.

Filing a claim online with American Home Shield has been easy. I pick what I want and move on. It would be nice though if they let me pick more than one thing. For instance, I was able to pick heat pump and furnace because they both are HVAC. But, one time, I had a situation where we were gonna work under the washing machine and the incinerator but it wouldn't let me pick both of them. It would just let me do this section or that section. I couldn't cross sections.
When the heating and air guys came out to take a look at the furnace/heat pump, they let me know it could be this or that. But if it was this, it was gonna cost me this much out of pocket. If it was that, it could be something else. I didn’t understand that that was the case. So it could be as much as $900 out of my pocket or could be more, depending upon what's happening. To have that information would be really instrumental. We had to have them out three times and the issue still hasn’t been resolved yet. The interaction left a bad taste in my mouth because I found out things from them that AHS should have told me. Because of this, I started looking at competitors to AHS to see what they offer. With another claim for a plumbing issue though, the problem got fixed. There was just something stuck in the aerator and the guy was able to get it out.

I called AHS on Monday 1/28/2019 to put in a claim pertaining to my Dishwasher. The representative submitted the claim and scheduled my appointment for Tuesday 1/30/2019 between 8-12. The technician never showed up nor did I receive a call from Sears. I called Sears and spoke to a nonspeaking Representative overseas in which I was informed that my appointment was cancelled due to inclement weather in GA. Remind you there was no inclement weather in GA. Just rain. No snow or Ice.
Okay, so, I received a call from a lady named Kathy from Sears at 3:00 pm informing that my appt was rescheduled for Wednesday 1/30/19. Between 1-5. I spoke with the Technician named Carter and he stated that he would be here on Wednesday. Another lie. The technician never showed up to repair my dishwasher. I called the 1-800 number to Sears only to be informed for the second time that my appt was rescheduled again due inclement weather. Again Today in GA no rain, snow, or ice reported.
I called AHS. By this time I was livid. The young lady tried to help me as much as she could. I submitted a complaint about my experience. This is the worst Home warranty company ever. You pay for your coverage but you can't get the service you pay for. The individuals overseas are not educated about the company nor do they speak proper English. I will be contacting The BBB. This is unacceptable.

When we woke up in the morning, our thermostat was on 45 degrees and although I tried some troubleshooting things on the furnace, nothing worked. So we put in a claim with American Home Shield. Doing that online was pretty convenient and quick. I even got an answer within four hours that someone was coming, which was good. I put in the claim at 8:00 in the morning and Climate Masters LLC was there by 2:00 in the afternoon. However, it was 10:05 when they texted me an appointment time of 10:00 to 4:00 and there was no one home. That needs to be addressed a little bit better. But everything else was great. The technicians were really appropriate, funny and good to deal with. The furnace has also been fine since. We had a good experience. This is the first time we’ve actually used the warranty. My dad’s pretty handy but he didn’t know how to use a gas furnace so the warranty was really helpful. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The heater went out and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. Navigating through their website was easy and it was a good experience. The next day from when I filed, a contractor from A-US Air came and tried to be polite with everybody. He explained the situation and what was going on with the unit, and everything was very professional. He did a good job and the heater is doing well.
The only thing I was very concerned about was my first claim, which was for the garage door. From the time I signed up the contract with American Home Shield, it was working fine until about eight months ago. It was working on and off until it went out totally. The technician said it was a power surge but I had power all along and there was no electricity issue. I called the claim in but they didn't honor it. I wasn’t very happy with the way he handled the issue. Still, having a warranty is important. This way, we can make sure everything is working fine.

Once they came out, I thought that I didn't even know why they had bad reviews. They were really nice and super fast. They were in and out and they were able to diagnose what was wrong with it really fast. Then they came back within two days and installed the new water heater, which has been working well so far.

When my microwave wasn't working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I had a good experience but I had to wait for more than one day for someone to come out. I had called very early, as soon as they opened, but I still had to wait and that's a problem. Even so, the tech who came out was the same one that I've always gotten so that was good. He was able to fix my microwave and I'm happy with that. I would recommend them to a friend if they took care of business immediately and I did not have to wait.

We like American Home Shield, thus we’ve kept our contract with them. I have two separate claims, one for the double oven and the other for the air conditioner, where they were able to help us. The air conditioning people gave their estimate, and then we went with a different company because we have a contract with a different company. AHS had to talk to us over the phone regarding that matter and the customer service was excellent. I prefer submitting my claims online, though. It’s simpler, I can get my order number and everything can be done through that transaction. The double ovens are still being worked on, though it should have been finished, but the general electric company that was coming to do the repairs sent the wrong part. So, I will have to wait until the end of the month to have that finished. Other than that, the contractors that AHS has sent out have been professional.

We were sitting here one night and started feeling cold air, so we got up and checked the heating. It was blowing out cold air instead of warm air, so we switched it over to the emergency heat, but it was still blowing out cold air, which it shouldn't be doing. We called our son-in-law and he came out and took a look at it. He said that he wasn't 100% sure, but he thought that either our Freon was out or that we have a leak in the Freon. I went online the next day and put in the service call with American Home Shield.
I told the man from the first company that came out about the cold air and he went out and checked it, but he said that there was nothing wrong with our Freon and that everything looked good. He thought that it was one of the heat strips, so he went back outside. He came in and said, "We need to call an electrician because, when I went out there the first time, everything was fine, but I went out this time and I got shocked." Whatever happened, it happened really quickly.
He went through American Home Shield and they sent out an electrician. The electrician went out and checked it, and he came in and said, "I don't know what the man is talking about because I have checked that whole unit over from top to bottom and there is no electrical current that would shock anybody or anything. So, I honestly don't know what the man's talking about." He added, "But, my company also does heating and air. We just don't have that part through American Home Shield. He also said that the first thing to check when the unit and the emergency heat are blowing out cold air is the Freon. He said that it's either that or the reverse valve. He then put his report into American Home Shield and when AHS rescheduled someone to come out, they called a different company.
The next guy said that there was a leak in the coil and he put in a stop leak kind of thing. He said if the leak was not very big, it would take care of it. Then, he put in three pounds of Freon and it lasted for a week. We had good heat for about a week, then I had to call again and they came back out on a Monday. He said that he found the leak, but he was gonna have to put through American Home Shield to find out if they wanted him to try to repair the leak or if they wanted him to replace the coil. However, we haven't heard back from anybody until Wednesday, so we called them and they had us scheduled with someone to come out on Tuesday. I'm waiting for their scheduler to call me because our temperatures are supposed to drop. We can't go without heat until Tuesday.
This issue has been ongoing since the last week of January. The guy from the company that is working with us now knows what he is doing and he is very thorough. The only problem I have with them is their scheduling because we have been scheduled three or four days wait time every time. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield. They have done their part and I have no complaints about that.
Hi, Robin. We thank you for letting us know how your service experience went. According to our records the issue has been resolved.

I was having issues with my toilet leaking and so I got on the phone with American Home Shield to submit a claim. I did the automation but the voice recognition thing didn't work. I was saying "toilet" but it told me heater element or some weird thing so I had to push zero to get somebody and the guy I talked to was very helpful. The repair company that then came was very good. They actually listened to what the problem was and the guy did as much as he can to correct the problem. He did not make shortcuts. The people that I have used in the past just wanted to do something really quick. Since the repair, everything has been good.
I've used American Home Shield for many years now. They've covered three houses for me so far and I'm happy with them. The only thing that I do not like is that they're a bit pricey for the amount of coverage that I have as compared to what I used to have. But then I've had good experiences with them and I would always recommend them to anyone.

My washing machine wasn’t performing at all. It had stopped and the transmission wasn’t going. It just went kaput. I submitted my claim online to American Home Shield and they gave me a call 24 hours before the technician was due. Their claim submission process was one of the smoothest and seamless that I’ve ever dealt with. They gave me another call an hour before when he was in route. The contractor that came out was very professional, customer service oriented, and knowledgeable as far as performing all of the diagnostic tests and determining the problem.
The washing machine was unrepairable so I’ve been given an option of American Home Shield purchasing or giving me something to purchase a new one. I have 30 days from the day that they contact me. From that point, they gave me some recommendations. I either have the choice of using their recommendation or if I have my own one that I prefer that’s not listed, then they will give me the cost of the buyout and I would just have to pay the difference. They even offered me an upgrade as well.

The lights in the refrigerator and freezer were blinking fast and I couldn't find my paperwork. We couldn't see if it was a light bulb that needed to be replaced so, I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and A & P came out. The guy called and he was running early, but we were home anyway, so he got to arrive early and that worked out well. He was great and he knew exactly what the problem was. The whole unit in the refrigerator had to be replaced for the light, which ties itself to the one in the freezer. One had to be replaced and the other one started working right. He popped out the old one and popped in the new one, and it worked. Everything has been great since the repair.

I had some outlets in two rooms that were not working and I called in at American Home Shield to have them checked. The contractor that came out explained to me what was going on. I also showed him the things that I'd done already and he let me explain everything. I showed him where the fuse box was and what happened. He took me into one of the other bedrooms that I thought had nothing to do with the other two rooms not working and showed me an outlet that was upstream from the two outlets that were bad. It wasn’t the full socket, it was just one plugging. He said, “This particular one, not the whole socket, is causing the other two rooms not to work.” He had another outlet and he swapped it out. Everything has been working great ever since.
The only issue that I had was I received an e-mail from American Home Shield that I need to call them to pay the $75 deductible, although I have a credit on their account for it. The young lady said I had credit for their service fee, but after the contractor's visit, AHS still sent me the e-mail and I'm not happy about that. Other than that, I'm happy with the service.

My water heater wasn't producing hot water and when I filed an online claim for it with American Home Shield, it was simple. It took about 30 seconds and a contractor came out the next day. He replaced some heating elements but that didn't work the first time. He had to come back and replace the heating elements again. It seems to be working okay right now. He's contacted me twice since then, checking on it and making sure it was all right. The contractor is a good company. They were polite, generous people who cleaned up after themselves.
The first time I filed a claim with AHS though, they were gonna bring someone out of South Arkansas and I live in Central. It was gonna be eight days before they got here and my air conditioner was out. I told them that it was not gonna work, so I hired my own and they ended up taking care of it. I do mortgage loans for a living, and I recommend AHS to everybody that gets a mortgage loan.

The guy said my furnace was fine, and the problem was because of the extreme heat. He was great and professional. He did a little adjustment, and my account was charged $75.
I had a plumber about two years ago, however. It was B-N-K and it was absolutely worthless. He was telling me that this and that were broke, and he didn’t do anything. He unclogged my garbage disposal and got it running, but then it stopped again. I will never have B-N-K back. AHS should get them out. Also, I have a new toilet in the powder room. And I keep giving them my mailing address, they never get it. As for the contractors they use, I like AZ Remodeling and Plumbing. I had a couple of contract appointment with them in the past, and I didn’t have any complaints. They were really good. But I have a problem with a new plumbing company that AHS sent to me recently. It took them a month to fix a leak.
I have at least five policies with AHS and I've been with them for over a year now. I just renewed my contract and I'm on my second year. I wish that they could cover more stuff on the air conditioning. Every time I have an air conditioning, it costs thousands of dollars, and they never cover anything. $10 for a Freon is nothing because a pound of Freon is $110. So, I wish the coverage is better on certain items. Other than that, I have recommended to two folks to get their own personal home coverage and I recommended AHS.

There was no way to cancel the policy online, so much so we had to have our credit card company to block their auto pay attempts. Contacted AHS the second time after getting a demand letter for 2 months of payments, of the two months after the sale of the property and the cancellation of the policy. I called AHS again, the rep said there was no record of cancellation back in November of 2018...the confirmation number was basically meaningless...
I called AHS a third time, somehow they were able to find the original cancellation record from November of 2018. But they couldn't explain why they kept billing me for the 2 month after the cancellation. I'm on hold with the "Retention Department" for the last 45 minutes. What a joke. I will never ever do business with AHS again. I will make sure to let anyone I care about to steer clear of this company.

VERY unprofessional beginning with unkempt (old torn t-shirt, dishevelled hair, neck tag I believe but couldn't read) technician who told us he was ordering 2 parts to be delivered to us, then we should call company to have installed. Only 1 part ordered without updating me, waited 2 days for additional part only to be told it wasn't ordered. Scheduled installation - rep didn't show; rescheduled - again rep didn't show.

I have made several attempts to reach a representative from the cancellation department with no success. The wait time on the call is over 10 min with no representative to meet your needs. The contract is easy to get into. However impossible to cancel. I was forced to stop payment through my bank after several attempts to cancel through the protocol that is in place. After co pays with no resolve in AC unit issue and exception clauses that do not provide a resolve for my much needed repair, I can say never again!

After being on hold for 26 minutes, Nancy answered. I explained I'd submitted a work order on 12/13/18 for a plumbing issue. As of today, 1/30/2019, their assigned plumber had still not completed the work, although he had said several times it would be done "today" (and this was the 2nd plumber AHS had assigned). Nancy talked to the plumber, who of course told her he planned to do it "today", so she told me I had to give him one more chance, and if he did not do it today, to call back tomorrow and they would assign a different contractor. I told Nancy he had told me the same thing for the last 45 days and I had no reason to believe today would be any different and I would like to work with a contractor who would keep his word, but Nancy told me to give him one more chance and call back tomorrow if he didn't contact me "today".
Since it had already taken 26 minutes to get through to her, and without resolution, I asked for a direct number, which of course, she did not have. I asked for an email address where I could send a written request for a new vendor and file a formal complaint against the current one, since a review yesterday 1/29/19 on the AHS website from "JHF" said he/she had emailed AHS and received a reply that day ~ but all Nancy would give me was a PO Box to mail my review. I repeatedly asked for a supervisor, and Nancy repeatedly told me she was sorry but the supervisor was on another call and there was no one else I could speak with. It has been a frustrating experience, and I still have no water pressure in my kitchen sink, the issue is getting progressively worse since it is now wet under the sink, and I have no resolution on the horizon, after 45 days of this. I would never recommend AHS to anyone, friend or enemy.

We are currently on day 16 without heat in our house. The current temperature is -3 degrees with wind chills into the -30s. The lack of effort and concern from this customer service department is appalling. Hours spent on hold for "service specialists" who barely speak English. This wait is due to them not allowing the part we needed to be picked up from the parts place. AHS insisted they order the part themselves. They waited almost a week and failed to order the part. After all this they finally decided to order the part from the same location the technician had offered to pick it up from in the first place. Ironically this situation is almost identical to the one we encountered in the summer of 2017 with our air conditioner. Save yourself the trouble and do business elsewhere.

My gas furnace stopped working 1/18/19. AHS (American Home Shield) sent its own HVAC contractor (Americool Heating and Cooling) to check out my gas furnace. Here were what they diagnosed: "Furnace will need to be replaced due to damage... Also venting will need to be redone. Venting that is installed is short PVC plumbing 90's and should be long sweep 90's per code. With the wrong venting being installed it caused heat to be trapped in the furnace and furnace to explode). My Carrier Gas Furnace has been working for 16 years and passed permit inspection when installed. All the sudden, short PVC plumbing can cause a furnace to explode (very unlikely the cause to me).
I called my own HVAC with a long record and better reputation (Michael & Son Services). Here were what they diagnosed "Tech found indication of leaking condensation furnace (cabinet was completely rusted out) as well as exhaust flue, burner tube and burner compartment badly burnt from flame rollout/due to condition of tech could only offer replacement options". My own contractor only charged me $89 for diagnosis compared to AHS's contractor charged $100 per visit. It sounded as a wear and tear issue and should be covered by AHS's contract (3x3 system plan):
2. HEATING INCLUDING DUCT WORK COVERED: All components and parts of the following heating systems: Forced air (gas, electric, oil) - Geothermal - Wall mounted heaters - Floor furnaces - Package units - Heat pumps - Mini-splits - Hot water or steam circulating heat - Electric baseboard - Room heaters - Cable heat (if main source of heat to the home or room). With regard to duct work, except as otherwise noted herein, the following are covered: Plenums - Dampers - Damper-only controls - Leaks or breaks in duct work (sheet metal, duct board, and flex duct including vapor barrier) from heating and/or air conditioning unit(s) including registers or grills.
NOT COVERED: Outside or underground piping, well pump, and well pump components for geothermal and/or water source heat pump - Fuel storage tanks - Portable units - Fireplace, grain, pellet, or wood heating units (even if only source of heating) - Legally mandated diagnostic testing when replacing heating or cooling equipment. My claim is unjustly denied and I have been paying on time for the past 3 years with AHS. When I called I had to wait for at least half an hour to talk to an agent (very poor customer service nowadays and no excuse).

The repairs done by the contractors sent by AHS have been good. But I kinda understood them so it was okay. They also did a good job. I have two furnaces. I have one on the third floor, and I thought it needed a tune-up. I called a heating company out and was gonna pay for it out of pocket because I knew the warranty wouldn't cover just a tune-up on it. The guy came out and told me that the electric furnace wasn't getting power because it had a 120 connection and not a 220 connection. He said it was an electrical problem. So then, I contacted American Home Shield since it was an electrical problem, and I figured they would cover that. The electrician came out, and he tested everything. He found out it was not an electrical problem. He checked everything and all the lines were running fine. He did his job. It ended up that AHS sent me to a heating and air place, which was South Heating & Cooling.
I usually submit a claim with AHS online, but in this particular situation, I tried to call it in because I was gonna tell them what the heating and air company told me, and that it may be an electrician thing. However, I couldn't get ahold of anybody at AHS. I ended up having to call a heating and air company and tell them the situation. And that was when they switched it to an electrical problem instead of the heating and air. They were gonna send another technician out, but then, I don't want to deal with that again. Nevertheless, AHS has been quick on getting people out. It has taken a while, but South Heating & Cooling are coming back today. They had to order some parts for the furnace.

I called the American Home Shield number for a microwave oven repair and they took the information so they’d have somebody call me back. The contractor did and they scheduled a time. In the meantime, we have a mother-in-law suite that had a microwave, so we were able to use that. It was a little inconvenient, but not the end of the world. In about three days, which was reasonable, a tech came out and he was here for a couple of hours. He was able to fix the issue and for somebody who knows how to do that, it was a minor repair.
I've had American Home Shield in two houses. When I bought the first house a couple of years ago, the air conditioning system was over 10 years old and on its last leg. I tried to negotiate something with the seller, and the realtor represented both. She said it will just be covered with the home warranty and I wasn’t familiar with it. I bought it, and then didn’t use it. I had two occasions to use them and rather than do that, my wife called services we’ve used in the past.
We’ve been here forever, so we already had people we dealt with. Ironically, both of the people who came out told us not to use AHS because we may or may not get a good technician, and they look for other things to charge for. That’s what I was told by people I didn’t know. I was in my other house for two years, and we haven't been here for six months. AHS is expensive for what I get and I haven’t been convinced it's worth the money.

American Home Shield has been easy to work with and their technicians have been very professional. They had fixed my water heater last year. The contractor came out and I had a couple of questions. They answered my questions to a T for me so I didn’t have any worries about it. Recently, the blower motor in the lower part of the furnace was squealing like crazy. It worked for a minute then squealed from about 10:15 until 4:00 in the morning. Then I turned the temp down on the furnace and it finally cooled down enough to where it wasn’t squealing like crazy anymore. Then it kicked back in the next day.
I submitted the claim for the furnace over the phone, and the gal that I talked to had everything set up really quickly. The gentleman from Prescott & Sons came out and the blower motor was squealing when he got there. He opened up the furnace and knew exactly what the issue was. He told me what it was, got the parts and put it in. I didn’t even have to wait around while he was going to get the parts, which was nice. I could go back to work, so I was happy with him.

We have used American Home Shield's website several times to submit claims and, in every case, each of the vendors they selected was respectful. They responded quickly and provided great service, so the website seems to work. Once, I submitted a claim for the heat pump. It was frozen outside and then, it was blowing cold air inside. On their website, you just pick whatever appliance that you’re having an issue with but you don’t describe the issue at all. They don’t ask you for very much information and they don’t even wanna know, so I just selected heat pump. It couldn’t be any simpler. Then, they gave me a callback. This morning, I put in a claim and I had somebody there in a couple of hours. At other times, it was several days. If I indicated that it was an emergency, they would try and escalate it.
United Air Temp called and they got a bit of an idea of what the situation was. They scheduled somebody to come out and we’ve had the same tech every time. He is a super great guy, respectful, kind, patient and very good. We've only been in the house a month and we’ve used AHS four times. Although I have heard bad things about this type of coverage, it has been a wonderful surprise to me. I love my son and I just got bought an AHS policy for him. Same Day Appliance Repair was the fourth one to be sent out and they did well. The technician was professional and technically capable. They knew what they were doing.
Whenever American Home Shield sends someone out, their people come out and do the work. However, AHS wants me to pay the fee, although they don’t have a process to validate if the people came out. We’re still working through the process, but it’s fine. Normally, AHS is good, though, and this is the only time I had that I experienced like that.

American Home Shield does not tell the truth on their advertisements on TV. They make it sound like you're fully covered, which you're not. If you got insurance and they say that it covers everything, then it should do so. I was gonna call them and ask them because they always say it’s what's covered in a zombie apocalypse. If we have one, they still wouldn’t pay for everything that they should and if you read the small print of the policies, they also supply the cheapest brands on the market. They're making hundreds of millions of dollars off of their programs, so they ought to give a little bit better coverage. You end up paying a big deductible to them on every service call and I'm thinking about cancelling AHS because I don't know whether you get your money's worth out of their protection or not.

We had a backed-up drain. We called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. The reps were fine. We have used AHS before, however, there was a problem. But the recent one was amazing because when we called it in on a holiday weekend, I thought we'll have a problem again. It’ll be Tuesday or Wednesday before they call us back even though Monday was a working day. And then it’ll be two days before they come, and we were just nursing the drain line. We’d had trouble with it, and my husband finally had taken a snake and tried to clean it out, and it worked limitedly. If the washer was going, I couldn’t use any other water towards that drain in the kitchen. I didn’t put anything down the disposal after that because it would back up into the other sink.
This was around Christmas. We had a house full of people, and we had a kitchen drain. What goes through that drain point was the washer, the dishwasher, and the sink disposal. And so when we had a call into another plumber, I told him to forget about it because the drain's working if we’re careful with it. I also told him that we’ll just call AHS, and it’ll only be 75 rather than 150 or 200 dollars give or take to get somebody out.
Also, I told him to call it in now, so that they have it first thing Monday morning. I was in bed at 8 o’clock, and at 8:02, I had a phone call from them to set up an appointment for that afternoon. I have never had a response like that before from anybody. It was so much different. The last time that we called AHS, we had that plumber from Lubbock come up. It may have been my frustration as much as their problem, but I was not happy with the service at all. I felt like we were being given the run-around. But maybe I had misread that situation.
After the repair, our drains are working. We also don't have problems with the washer and the dishwasher. We don’t hear some gurgling anymore. And I know what the deal was now. We had called just a regular plumber that we have used in the past, but my husband had insisted on putting drain cleaners down it. But the drain was fixed and we’re happy. But I battle with myself every year whether we're going to renew or not. And I keep saying that maybe if I would put that premium aside every year that that would help with any repairs or any services that we may need.
I don’t like the fact that we have to depend on a plumber from Lubbock to come up, but they just have trouble getting people who work under AHS. We also had an air conditioning guy who was quitting AHS, and he was absolutely the best technician that we had. And the reason he was quitting was because AHS tried to tell him what was best for the customers. And it wasn’t that he was trying to run up a bill, but he just knew what was best for his customers, and AHS wasn’t honoring what it was the service that he said they needed.

Well months later, winter came and we needed to use the furnace, then we noticed it was having a hard time keeping the house warm. We placed a service request with AHS and a technician was sent after few days. Diagnostics was heating exchanger was struggling exhausting the air due to rust gradually reducing the air channels.
After a week without hearing from AHS, I called them and they said it would cost me $5,500.00 to solve the issue. And could only pay $1,500 and I have to pay $4,000.00 out of my pocket, (it's define on the fine prints of the contract). Well, since I was not aware they did not cover the entire repair cost, I decided to go for the option for cash out the $1,500.00 and choose different contractor. I told them, cash out would be fine. Then another week passed by, and never heard from them. Called them again and after a 35 minutes on hold, the representative said my cash out was denied because they consider my issue a pre-existing. How could I know there was an internal rust issue slowing degrading the heating exchanger? The home inspector checked the unit during a 70 degree weather and heater went up to 80 degree without any problems, and the A/C went down to 60 without any issue.
Anyway, they told me they could send me another contractor to get a second opinion about the issue, and if the diagnostics were the same, then I would have to pay another $100.00 and the claim would remain denied. Why they send me the first contractor if they don't trust his opinion? Am I crazy or they are big crooks? I will let you make your decision based on my own honest review. Find a local small company to do business with, and stay away from these scammers.
They served me well when I needed 15 years ago, but now they are nothing but scammers. They rather spend tons of money paying for internet campaigns, but not taking care of their clients, which are the ones that bring more customers than any internet campaign. We are in 2019, business without a pro-consumer policy will not survive, and if they don’t change the way they treat customers, they will be out of business, it's just matter of time. I am not bashing them because as revenge, but to prevent other people to fall for the same trap I did. I hope my review will help someone to choose better company.

We had an incident about a month ago where our clothes washer was full of water, so it was leaking out the door. We drained it, ran it again to see if it was just a fluke, and it filled up again. So my wife called in the claim to American Home Shield, and they lined us up with a provider. He came out, took a look at it, cleaned out a filter, and said it was good to go. The contractors have always been great and they did their job just fine. Everybody here in the Church Valley seems to be doing well with that.
Good morning

American Home Shield had overdrawn my account twice for the payments on the agreement. American Home Shield made me jump through HOOPS to get the money back into my account, and I still have not received the money back. I talked with several different Supervisors and nobody seemed to care that American Home Shield made a mistake. I tried emails and phones calls, with no returns. It took several weeks to solve this issue, that keeps re-occurring, and American Home Shield did nothing to compensate for their mistake.

The dishwasher broke and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. The reps were great, very polite and patient. They were able to answer my questions and get me to the right place. But the contractor from SRL Services that they sent was awful. I'm handicapped and I couldn’t get around there to see what he was doing, and he kept running outside saying he was getting parts. And when the dishwasher man came, he hadn’t done anything. He said the dishwasher man stripped the faucet, but the dishwasher man just touched the faucet to try to turn the water off, and it kept spinning.
We had to keep waiting for them to do something and they never did, so there was a holdup. It was all messed up. They came back but they still couldn't fix the dishwasher. So we gotta get another one, and the man from American Home Shield told us what kind to get. It's the one without all those plastic hoses but just one big rubber hose and no plastic at the bottom, so the rats can't eat it. They said they don’t cover the cost for rodents and roaches. All in all, the people at American Home Shield are wonderful.

I recently made a claim to them for my garbage disposal and when I had a drip in the bathroom. I made a call as I did not want the drip to get big while I was gone. The rep gave me a timeframe between 1:00 to 5:00 for the contractors to come out and they were able to meet the expectation.

My water wasn’t staying hot, so I called American Home Shield and filed a claim over the phone. I had a horrid interaction with the rep, however, and he was disrespectful. I’m all about being a good person and we all have a job to do. The only thing I was trying to do was get my water heater fixed, and the money is not coming out of his pocket. But he was real rude and that was totally uncalled for. It was unprofessional. Waldorf the contractor was able to get to my property fast and he fixed the problem. The water is warmer but not hot, and when I called AHS this morning, they said that they won’t send anyone else out. This experience wasn’t good and I didn’t agree with anything that they did. I’ve been with AHS for nine years and I have two houses with them. If I’m gonna be treated like that, then I need to find another company.

I just clicked the box for garage door repair and it was done. I got a text almost instantaneously and the appointment was set up very quickly too. The contractor was smokey's garage and they were good. The tech diagnosed the problem quickly. He didn't have the exact part at that time, so I had to wait a few more days but that was okay. He got it fixed. We're pleased with getting the garage doors fixed.

I had an issue with the pump for the filter on the pool and American Home Shield sent Pure Pool. That is the company that has come out to fix my pool for several times over the years and they are fantastic. I like them very much. But my satisfaction ends there. If it’s for air conditioning or any other problem, I seem to get a different company every time and I'm just not happy with them. In my past experience, American Home Shield contracts with people that are subpar. Those people come in and love to tell you that it’s a bigger problem that’s simply not covered. I think that’s how they make their money.
We’re also unhappy with the fact that we never succeed in talking to anyone in American Home Shield. In the very beginning, I was able to call, talk with someone and say, “This vendor is telling me I’m not covered because the installation wasn’t done properly and that’s not true.” Then they would have to send another company out. That was nice. There was personal one-on-one customer care. But they don’t have that anymore. Now, you cannot get anybody on the phone unless you have an hour and a half to spare to sit on hold. You have to do everything online so your options are pretty much black and white: what’s the problem and what part needs fixing. That’s all you can tell them then they send somebody out. It’s very impersonal and I don’t like it. We were honestly thinking that after all these years, we may not even keep AHS next year.

I had a leak in the faucet so I called over the phone to submit a claim to American Home Shield. The process was easy although it would help if they can cut down on how long I have to wait to talk to someone. I am sometimes on hold for an hour and a half. Despite that, the contractors sent were nice people and they told me what they did. However, they had to come back as the faucet was still leaking. It took them a couple of days before they came back but since then, everything is good.

We've had AHS for years and we've only had one contractor we weren't happy with. Plus, they respond really fast. We had problems a few weeks ago getting our furnace fixed. When a contractor told us that AHS had sent them emails saying not to call them I thought, "Okay." We couldn't get through on the phone and we've been without heat for three days. So, we started an online chat and within an hour, it was all settled. Their online chat was awesome.
I've called AHS three times in the last four months. My heater quit and then it quit again. And then my plumbing was leaking. The first time my heater quit, they immediately sent me a link. I talked to the people. It was Friday and they said they didn't work on weekends. We were gonna be without heat for days and it was really cold. I was going through chemotherapy, too. So, I called AHS and they answered right away back then. I said that the contractor couldn't come until Monday and that it was really cold. The rep said she'd find me someone out who'd work on the weekend. That was really responsive.
Now, I haven't been able to get people on the phone like that. I'd get on, but I'd be on hold. And then I'd get disconnected. I thought these guys are crooks, but they were just changing the way they operate. They are not responsive on the phone, but they're great online. Now that we know that the phone isn't an effective way to deal with them anymore, we're okay. Two months ago, we were getting really discouraged, but that was because we didn't know how to approach them. I had a dripping faucet and the online claim submission process was super easy. It didn't take very long for On Time to get ahold of me. They were great. They were cheerful and were good communicators.

We were having issues with our toilet and I called American Home Shield a couple times. We had to change a contractor because of timeframe and they couldn’t get to it quick enough. And so, AHS swapped it up and got Jamie to come out. Once I changed contractors, it was in perfect time and I was very happy with how that worked. Jamie was super polite, easy to work with, was clean, and a very good guy. He also did a great job. I got his business card and told him I would let other people know if they needed a plumber here, locally, to give him a call.
A year ago, we had a contractor that I was very dissatisfied with. A guy came out and I was not happy with how he worked. And then AHS got somebody else out there, so I ended up paying $75 twice and I wasn’t very happy with it. But the other guy did what he was supposed to do, so I can’t take that away from them. American Home Shield has always done what was right.

The water wasn’t draining from the bottom of the pan of the dishwasher so I filed a claim online to AHS. AHS's website was easy to navigate and their reps were responsive. I had to reschedule, however, because of work. I work in IT and a meeting popped up, so I couldn't make it on the original date that they gave me to meet the technician here. But he got straight to the point when he arrived. I explained the issue to him and he looked at it. I told them about what I saw on the internet on how to do it. I told him what I thought the issue was, and it turned out to be that.
If I would have done the repair, I would have followed the online guide, and it would’ve had me taking the whole dishwasher apart and pulling it out. But he didn't have to do any of that. He was knowledgeable on the product and the repair. He showed me what he did and he fixed it more quickly than I thought. Now the dishwasher is operating fine and I don’t have to wash dishes by hand anymore. Excellent service and repair. I was happy all the way. I’ve already been recommending American Home Shield to my friends who don’t have it.

The heater went out and my husband went down trying to see what was wrong with it. He pulled the filter out, set the filter next to it, then put it back in because it wasn't working. I usually submit our claims with American Home Shield online, but they didn't run my renewal through, so we had to get that worked out. Once I got it all straightened out, they took the claim over the phone. NPM Heating and Cooling was the first company that was assigned to my claim. The gentleman came in and we told him what happened. He looked everything over and told my husband that the blower motor bracket had shattered on it. He said that it was gonna be a hard part for him to find and that he had up to two weeks to try and find the part.
If they couldn't find the part, then it could take them a week or two to put a new unit in. It was around 20 below zero and we couldn't afford a new one that is why we have the home warranty. We said that we would just wait to hear back from him and he left. We were thinking he was looking for the part, while we were finding ways to stay warm. Two days passed, but we heard nothing, so I decided to log into my home warranty account to see if there was any status update. And I saw that there were no claims out there.
I got American Home Shield on the phone and I said, "I don't understand this. There's no claim." The rep said they got a pending claim. I said, "No more waiting for the guy to get back to us to see if he can find the part." And they said he took a picture of our furnace without a filter and then said that that was normal wear and tear. The contractor said to them that we had been running our furnace without a filter that is why it broke down, which was completely a lie. It was completely false information.
We never run the furnace without a filter. We took the filter out when my husband was trying to figure out what was going on. The rep said that because of what the contractor said, they closed the claim and denied it. However, nobody had called me and nobody told me while we were freezing in the cold weather thinking that they were getting back to us. I would not recommend that company to be a part of the home warranty. The people who contact in a dire situation like that should not be treated that way.
When American Home Shield asked me who I wanted to come out for the second visit, Budget Heating and Cooling was the one that they gave me. They had come out in the summer to look at my air conditioner and they were awesome. They handled the claim for the heater and they were professional. The tech came immediately and diagnosed the same exact thing the previous tech did. He saw the filter was there, but because of the age of the unit, the part couldn't be found, so they recommended the replacement. He did the job the right way. That was on a Friday and the unit was replaced on Monday. They were in and out and they did a great job. American Home Shield has been fairly reliable and I highly recommend them.

I normally submit claims to AHS on the phone because I don't like computers. When it comes on and it says the computer, I just punch to talk to a live person. If it’s on a Monday or it’s a holiday, getting through a rep might take a little longer than usual. But they have the option that I don’t have to stay on the phone. I can just punch 1 or 2 and they’ll call back to my number when it’s my turn. I recently had an issue with the switch on the wall for my fireplace. It kept going out. The contractor AHS sent was Ideal Electric, and they came right out. In less than 20 minutes, they had it done, cleaned up behind themselves, vacuumed, and left.
I’m also a Realtor and I encourage my clients to use AHS all the time because when there’s a problem, they honor it. There are a lot of home warranty companies that can be used and although there are always exceptions to the rule of perfection and professionalism, I feel like American Home Shield does their best to live up to the expectations of what their clients have. The representative that works for my company and works with me, Lindsay, went above and beyond the call of duty. She services not only me but my clients whenever there’s an issue. She always seems to have a way to make it work out for the best of the client if it’s possible. I’ve had great experiences with AHS.

The guy's knowledge was amazing and he was very spot-on when it came to getting to the house, fixing the issue, and then coming back and following up on the same day when I filed a separate claim. Best Care called me and set up an appointment, then they came out, took a look at the unit and saw that it needed to be replaced. The guy showed me pictures of the cracks that the unit's condenser had, so it was a bit of a safety hazard with the carbon monoxide. Best Care sent someone else to give me some pricing on different units, and they also talked to AHS about the amount they were willing to pay on it. I accepted one of those proposals and scheduled a time for them to replace the unit. They then came back out and replaced the unit. I was very impressed with Best Care and the guy who did the work. I'm in Chicago and the air temperature here was 25 below zero. It was 50 degrees in my house. I put the claim in online and the website is really easy to navigate. The contractor called me the following morning then they came out that afternoon. Two guys showed up, took off their boots at the door and then went down to the furnace. I had an issue with my sink. I called AHS and they had a long waiting time. So I hung up and got a call back after an hour. Then they submitted the contractor company to me later, after the call was finished. I called that company and they did not respond back to me. I went to the Internet and saw their review and it was not that great. So I called American Home Shield again and told them to get a different plumbing company because the rating of the one that got assigned to me, was not good to start with. Plus when I gave them a call, they never called me back.
AHS showed me the companies that they have and I remember getting the US Plumbing before with a different insurance company so I got them again. The tech from US Plumbing looked into it and said that the faucet was leaking and the valve as well from under. He said it would need replacement but he didn't have the parts and would need to come on a different day. They were right too, because we need to schedule a shutdown. I live in a condo and I need to let the neighbors know that the water will be off for like 20 minutes for them to finish the work. So, they rescheduled it for another day, which was a week after. And they came with the parts and they fixed it.
But I just called them back yesterday because, initially, everything was fine. I didn't see any issue but after a couple of days, when I opened the sink, it was wet again. But it's not as bad as it used to be. It's something minor and they're coming back today to see what the issue is. Having the warranty is extremely valuable because with these kind of stuff the cost could be dramatic. At least with the warranty, I know that it's not gonna exceed a given number. Plus the work will be at least very good.

I call American Home Shield to submit claims since it is a lot easier to explain what is going on and why you need the service. But one problem I have is trying to find someone who can respond quickly to the need. I wish that we can get somebody to go faster when we come up on an emergency. When American Home Shield selects whoever is next to come out in the queue, the timeline is not good. In fact, that is the problem I am having right now.
They assigned my plumbing problem to one agency but the timeline was not good. And my kitchen sink has been inoperable since the 1st of the month. It went to one company but we had to change because they were backed up. I had to find another company that could do it a little quicker. But the things that American Home Shield has to go back through to contract whoever to get a faster service causes a slowdown. Then getting parts is also slow. Right now, I’m still waiting on parts and trying to get somebody here to get it fixed.
Nonetheless, I have been with American Home Shield for years and I’ve had good service with them. I would recommend them highly. I had a heating claim with Dawson Service which was referred to another firm due to the fact that it became a plumbing problem. Dawson referred it back to AHS and AHS reassigned it to another firm. Nothing happened for a week, so I called Home Shield and they said they sent it to the service people. I had to call the service people back, who said Home Shield never sent anything. The connection between Home Shield and the service people was very poor. It was me calling both the Home Shield and service people many times before they got together. Home Shield also informed me when I put in the claim for a new air conditioner that they didn't pay for the Freon. The technician said, “You can guarantee that you’ll be back out here in the next year,” because my unit was so old. So, I ended spending $6,000 on a new air conditioner. I submitted claims with American Home Shield regarding my icemaker, washing machine, and the dishwasher at the same time, but they didn't get it all repaired at the same time. I submitted the claims over the phone and it was a terrible procedure since they put me on hold forever. If they can afford to charge me $50 a month, then maybe they can afford to hire some people to answer the phone. They first did the icemaker and the washing machine. The contractors who came out was from Lindi Corporation and they were fine. It took them a while to get the parts and schedule a time to be here, but they came over and fixed both of them the same day. Since the repair, bot appliances are working fine.
With the dishwasher, we replaced it because AHS was unable to procure the appropriate repair parts. However, the two fellows that delivered it didn’t have the expertise to install it with the way my house was plumbed, which is normal for the homes in this area. So, they just delivered it. And then, I had to make some more of those forever phone calls for a representative to schedule Lindi to come over and actually install the dishwasher. It's been working well.
I checked on the model number that they wanted to give me. I went over to Lowe’s in St. George, which is about 50 miles from here, and looked at their dishwashers, and I found one I liked a bit better than the model number they gave me and it was the same brand. Lowe’s was selling the better model for about $90 more than the standard model, but when I actually ordered that model through American Home Shield insurance, they charged me $214, which to me sounded like I was clipped a bit.
I also found that earlier in the year, when they did my water heater, I thought they would just come in, put in a new water heater, and that would be fine. But I ended up paying almost $500 because they said it had to be strapped to the wall. It hadn’t had an air tank, and they had to procure a permit from the city. AHS didn’t like copper pipes that were connected. They wanted to change it to their stainless steel one. So, all in all, my free water heater cost me 500 bucks. Those were the things I've not been very happy with, but the most frustrating thing of all dealing with this insurance company was the long wait to actually talk to a person.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I've stuck with AHS and enjoyed them. They've been good for me. However, there are a few things that I get my nose bent out of shape about, regarding how they do their deductibles. Especially, if I've got multiple issues that are interconnected. Like, when I got two issues in the kitchen with something going on with my oven and something going on with my cooktop. And I have them come out and they're both the same manufacturer. So, one guy could come out and take a look at both on the same day. But, instead, I gotta make two separate appointments and two separate deductibles, and that's a little odd sometimes. Certainly understandable but wish it wasn't the case. But other than that, I've had good luck with them. They're very responsive. Never had any contractors that are not up to par or not doing their job.
I submitted a claim to AHS because I have a double oven and one of the ovens wasn't working. The other oven would not get up to temperature the way that it was supposed to. The technicians came out, took a look at it and determined it needed several parts. And they didn't make them for that model anymore, so they replaced it. The technicians were fine. The guy that came out was thorough. He was great. I've been happy with AHS.

AHS' reps were very friendly. Any information I needed, they had it readily available. I dealt with them for a plumbing issue and they were very helpful. They contacted the plumber for me right away, told me what they covered and explained any fees that might happen. The plumber got back to me within an hour. The plumber was excellent as well as the heating agent who was here more recently. They're very knowledgeable in their field and get out to my place right away. Overall, it's a delight to have AHS' service. I recommend them.

Saw a promotion so went to their website. A customer rep pinged me to see if I needed help. The package sounded good, but I wanted to ask my husband first. The rep told me, “Not to worry, sign up first you won't be charged. We will send you a detailed contract and then you and your husband can decided whether to get the insurance. But sign up now so you can get the discount.” So that's what I did, but in the end got charged without getting any contract to read over first. Now they will not refund me what they charged. Very dishonest.

We were having problems with our gas water heater. It started making noise, so we called AHS for a repair. The plumber can out and took a look at our hot water heater. He said it was old, never heard the noise we heard. On invoice that we received, stated that our hot water heater was old, rusted, and did not heat the water. I know its old, I don't know how you can tell its rusted without looking at the inside, and it has always heated water. To get the hot water heater repaired, we need to pay over $500 for upgrades for a replacement heater.

I have been an American Home Shield patron for 8 years now and have only used the service three times prior. Recently when my dishwasher went out and they were quick to send a service repairman but slow to contact me regarding what would be happening with my unrepaired dishwasher. When I called them I held for 32 minutes before someone came on the line and said I needed to go to the repairs department to determine if they would be repairing my dishwasher or offering monetary compensation to help offset the cost of a new one. I held for another 35 minutes for the next person to say that they couldn't help me and that the parts department had my number and would call me in 5 to 7 days to discuss.
No one was particularly courteous or respectful of my time and the lack of interest was astounding. The first person even stated when I mentioned I had been on hold for over 30 minutes that the time had been longer the last few days so "I should be happy". I asked to speak to a supervisor both times and was told there were none available. How do you run a "customer facing" business when you have no regard for the customer? At this time I am still waiting to hear from someone about my dishwasher and still waiting for a supervisor call back that I am fairly certain will never come. I don't recommend American Home Shield if this is the way they treat long term customers.

My hot water heater went out a few weeks ago, I called and they had a plumber come right over. The plumber told me that my house needed something it didn’t have and I would be responsible for the service to bring it up to code. I’m ok with that, if it didn’t have the correct stuff that’s my issue not theirs. The Plumber told me that I could ask for a cash out for the water heater and they would pay me directly so that’s what I did. We agreed on a price and told me to send the receipt to them and they would pay me.
That’s where the trouble started. I called 3x and every time I was placed on hold for over 45 min. I did get a hold of someone but they needed to switch me to a different person, guess what, 31 min went by and no answer. I finally received my check but it was from a company called “Frontdoor”, I took the check to the issuing bank to cash and it was NO GOOD! They told me that they weren’t cashing checks from “that company”. Now I can’t get a callback from American Home Shield or Frontdoor and I’m stuck with a bad check. When I originally set this up I was online, I put my phone number in and I swear within 30 seconds they called me back and wanted to sign me up. Where is that customer service now? Once you say “ok” you're done with it, be careful who you trust. This isn’t a trustworthy company.

Then it took 3 weeks to hear back from that company. The next company came out, told me I needed a water boiler, scheduled an appointment for January 28th, never showed up. When I called American Home Shield, I was placed on hold for over 50 minutes. Then when I spoke to a live person, the notes from the customer service rep did not support my statement, but wrote the lie that was told by the company.
Waiting for 50 minutes on line for someone to respond to a phone call. Talking to people who don't care about you, makes me want to cancel my plan and demand a refund. When asked for a phone # to corporate office there isn't one other than the stand 1-800 number. One star only because you have select at least one. If you have a service need that goes beyond simple submission online and need to talk to a human being you will be very very disappointed and frustrated. Hour long wait times are STANDARD on the phone lines. They do not communicate anything in writing which is probably a serious way to circumvent the customer proving their terrible responsiveness.
My heating system went down 4 days ago. The company they chose to repair it is located an hour away and stated they could not schedule anyone for 4 days. Again, the temperatures are in the 20s at night. I requested an expedited scheduling of a new appointment. The representative stated there was a 4 hour response time but I never received any call back or response. I was left with the house in 20 degree with no heat for 4 days. I am having to take a day off work to be home for a 4 hour window of showing up. This has been MISERABLE. They are terrible.

Our furnace stopped working and American Home Shield was contacted and we had a technician out the same day. This isn't the issue. The technician tells American Home Shield what part was needed for repair and it arrived 3 days later. When the tech came back to install the wrong part had been ordered. Keep in mind this is dead of winter. No heat and small children and pets in the home. The tech contacted American Home Shield to order correct part and that was 10 days ago and the part still hasn't arrived. I called Home Shield the day the part was ordered to try to expedite this and they would not. I even offered to pay the expedite fee and they refused.
When you call them you are on hold at least 45 minutes before speaking with someone and you're lucky if they speak English that you can understand. American Home Shield did pay $150 towards electric heaters but they have on been 2 weeks non-stop. Are they going to pay anything towards our electric bill which will be sky high. My advice is check out others before selecting this company. This will most likely be the last time we deal with them. We are definitely looking elsewhere.

I am convinced all these positive reviews are fake and are hired as damage control by the company. Go do a search around the web for reviews and you'll see what I'm talking about. They do not honor ANY claim and send really unreliable and inexperienced contractors. The one they sent over to diagnose our heating problem broke our attic door in half and disconnected all of our HVAC ducts then left it that way and then AHS denied the claim because of the damage the technician did.
We would have been better off not having anyone come. Now we are stuck fixing this ourselves after paying AHS over $200 just to have our system broken, not fixed! Terrible! Also I have been bugging both of them to send me the tech report and neither the HVAC company nor AHS will respond or send me a technician report, for all I know nothing transpired and I have nothing official showing me why it was denied other than saying there was "intentional" damage to our ducts. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy their warranty. Waste of money and you'll end up paying more in the long run! The only way to contact them is by calling, you'll sit on hold at least an hour no matter what time of day you call! No way you can speak to anyone via email. They do not honor any commitment to contract terms, No interest whatsoever to please the customer. Terrible druggie contractors.

My wife used to be a chef and she knows the stove. If she's saying it's not working right, then I trust her. So, we submitted a claim with AHS. We did it over the phone and the rep we talked to was awesome. She was very pleasant and very professional. But when the tech initially came out, it almost like we were wasting his time or he just didn't wanna take time to do the repair. He said that everything was working fine and that if the stove was not working good by Monday, we should call him. On New Year's Eve day, we called and he came back out on Thursday. This time, he put a little more effort into the repair. He took two thermometers and the stove kept fluctuating. He then waited and said that he was gonna have to change this and that.
When he came back and replaced all the parts, he was very nice and polite. But he was kinda mad at me because of the way that I talked to him on the phone and he was a little hesitant. But as time went on, it changed everything. We shook hands and we were good to go. Still, I wouldn't recommend him. At the time, we were down to one oven during the holidays and we couldn't really make money with the catering with that. Other than that, AHS was good and I'd tell everybody to go with them.

The garage door was not shutting completely. One side of it was elevated like an angle. I called American Home Shield and they sent me Ace's Garage and Repair who sent me their technician, Adam. After his inspection of the door, he reported that the problem was a mechanical failure and that American Home Shield would only cover the chain lift and motor, anything else would be my out-of-pocket expense. I went on to tell him that I would not be able to cover that. The first quote was $600 and something and I said I couldn’t do that. He said he would call his boss and explain. I'm a senior citizen on a fixed income. I shared that with him and I said I did not understand that the repair would not be covered and he explained a little more.
His boss then shared with him that the wheels on the side of the garage were discounted because of a promotion that they were running, which is instead of $228, it would be $128. Only one side of the coil was broken, but it was still broken. It was something I could do. It had to be replaced because I couldn’t move the garage door up and down. The wiring on the sides had to be replaced. In plain English, he had to replace the whole mechanism. He then asked me if I was a senior citizen to which I said yes and he shared that fact with his boss and that was another discount.
It was bittersweet. I ended up giving him a check for $534. It was not a check to be honored that night. They offered a promotion to their customers in giving them a postdated check. The postdated check is $215. And he went on to fix the problem. American Home Shield claimed that they cover repairs for the garage. Had they stipulated that there are only certain parts of the coverage, then I wouldn’t have been so thrown back in here. But it was a good experience with Ace.
I've been with American Home Shield for the longest. I'm still in the process now of dealing with them. I put in two claims to have repaired. My heater was not working and after the technician from World Class AC came out and inspect it, he found that the air condition was frozen. In the state of being frozen, he couldn’t check it. He came back on Monday and he gave me a whole list of things that needed to be done.
He said that he checked the air condition, the TXV is leaking, the shaft badly needs a new one, and the defrost board has a short and needs replacing. He explained that he was going to remove the balance of the Freon that is in the unit and in order to do the repair, he would have to remove the Freon. I asked how many pounds of Freon was in the unit and he said it was missing two pounds. I asked what happens to the balance of the Freon he would be taking out if the unit holds eight pounds and why I should have to pay for the entire amount to be put back in. I can understand he was telling me since the Freon is not covered, they only pay for what is missing. But he claimed that I had to pay for the whole thing in order to get the unit repaired. I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. At what point should American Home Shield step up to the plate on that?

He called back a few days later and said that they didn’t make them anymore, and he would be letting American Home Shield know that, and they would be in touch with us. Within a week, they got in touch with us, told us how much they would give us towards a new one, and we would pick one out and pay the difference. So it worked out pretty good.
They’ve repaired the dryer a couple of times prior and they added some years to the life of it. This time they gave us almost the cost of a new one, but once they told us how much, I said, "Well, I think it's not quite $500." We went to a place and found the one we wanted. Whenever my wife took a shower, we had water that would leak down into the downstairs den area. The contractor that AHS sent repaired the first time and they replaced the overflow drain in the tub. It was chewed up pretty badly because it was the original since my house is probably 30 years old or more. They took care of that problem and we thought it was all fixed. But when they cut a hole in there, we knew that it had leaked a little bit out of that particular overflow drain in the past. There was no telling when it happened, but you could see a watermark coming from that down along the tub surface.
Right now, we're trying to figure out what our next step is. I had to cut a hole in the ceiling downstairs to be able to look up there to try to see where the leak was coming from and all the plumbing was evaluated. The leak was not coming from the drain or from the water source. The technician would turn on the water and let it run for probably 30 minutes without it splashing on anything - just the shower on going right into the tub shooting directly into it and there was no problem at all. Lots of thorough testing were done but we are still not 100% sure where the water is coming from. I even duplicated the plumber's test yesterday. When the water really gets splattering badly in the shower, that's when the water makes it way downstairs.
We have two showers here in the house and we are using the other shower. We didn’t find out about the problem until about noon yesterday. I was gonna do some more testing on something else. We may have a slab leak. I called the people that come out to restore homes to get rid of any kind of mold. They looked at our floors and one guy had some kind of a sensor that said there was water underneath the floors. They couldn't see where the leak was coming from. From that standpoint, it's still a big question mark to us. You can fill the tub up all the way and let it drain or stay high and there will not be any leak anywhere at all.
The restoration guy also saw some water underneath the tile in our entryway. It was not a whole lot, but there was moisture there. I have lots of questions as to where this moisture is coming from right now. I'm trying to look at what the possibilities are. I wanna do a little bit more research. I'm gonna get me some plastic, build a shell inside the shower, let it splatter exactly the way it does and see if I can find out what part of the shower I shut off to where the water doesn’t come down.
We had someone come out yesterday too. They are a group that comes and dries out lumber. I was told one of the tubes before up there is soaked and it's gonna need to be treated at some point. This is our first time working with AHS. We were told that when we're ready, AHS would take care of replacing where the technicians had to cut out the ceiling but then it would be up to us to finish it out. I have yet to call AHS about it.
Other than that, I received a wonderful service from the AHS contractor. I'm very pleased so far with how things have been handled. AHS sent me good contractors who were experienced people. They knew what they were doing and they have handled issues like this. They were very thorough but they could have gone ahead and torn up the ceiling more, though. They're the plumber and once they prove that it wasn’t coming from either the supply or the drain, then that means it had to be getting down some other way and making its way through the subflooring or tile.
I talked to Alan who was the head guy with the Blue Star Plumbing that came out and he has seen this quite a bit in older homes and stuff like that where water gets out here on the ground floor then it basically just goes underneath the tile or your linoleum in the bathroom. But if you're upstairs, then it will tend to leak out and do what this is doing. But where the water is draining down is nowhere near any of the pipes. In fact, it looks like it's coming more from over where the commode is. But with the commode, there's no problem when you flush it.
We've had two experiences with American Home Shield so far. And I haven't seen anything from them that I would not recommend them to anybody. The first experience with them went perfectly. I haven't resolved the second one, but I'm further along down the line. I'm glad knowing it's not the plumbing. Now, it's something else I've got to try to figure out.

At first, they gave me a Friday when the techs could come out, but I explained to them that my dad is 92 years old and heat is not something he can do without at that point. I talked to Megan and she was very understanding that we really needed to get somebody out due to my dad's age. She put me on hold and she took the time to try and whiz us in. She said, "It might be very late but we will get to you," when she could've just said, "No, you just have to wait." I appreciated that.
American Home Shield had somebody come out the next day. The tech called and said he was on the way. He said he would be between 45 to 60 minutes away depending on traffic and when he came, he apologized for being late. Then, he went right out and started working on the unit. By the time he got here, it was 7:30 at night and it was freezing cold outside, but he was out there working on the unit and I felt really bad. It took him a little less than an hour and he had the heat going. He stayed and made sure it was working, and it didn't shut off. He asked if we had any questions, and then he left. He was very nice and he apologized twice that he was late. There has not been one single problem or issue since he was out here. I just bought a place a week ago and last weekend when we first started moving in and using the facilities, we had issues with water flooding out from underneath my toilet. I also had sewage backing up into my tub. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and every person I talked to did everything they could to try to help me resolve my issue. However, my experience was a little taxing in getting a hold of someone. There were some instances where it seemed like the whole times were out of control, but at the same time, I knew that I'm not the only person in the world. The gentleman who came moved as quickly as he could. He took the time to go to my house at about 9:30 at night on a weekend. I was really appreciative of him taking the time to do that.
He was able to temporarily get the blockage but right after he left, the toilet did the same thing again. AHS sent out another guy to come back the next day to double-check what the gentleman looked at the night before to see if maybe there was anything else that might have been contributing. It turned out that what both plumbers thought was my issue turned out to be not the issue. AHS ended up sending out an even more specialized plumber to come out and take a look. It was realized that I had a main line blockage so, it was a serious plumbing issue versus a septic issue which was what we assumed at first. I had to wait for the diagnostic report to get back to American Home Shield and then I had to wait for the authorization team to make a decision if they wanted to go ahead and transfer it over to the septic team. It was a lot of back and forth but through it all, the contractors were able to get it resolved.
At first, I was starting to feel like things were not gonna work out but American Home Shield managed to work out as I hoped for. Also, the folks at Home Choice were absolutely wonderful and very helpful people. I couldn’t have asked for a better group. I understand that it's a process when it comes to these kinds of things. I wasn’t as understanding at first as it was kind of under duress because I just moved into the house. But in reality, with everything that American Home Shield helped with, I am definitely satisfied with the service they provided.

When the temperature goes down, our heater doesn’t work properly and this is a recurring issue every year. There is not enough heat and when we have the thermostat on 75, the heat doesn’t go out above 71. We’ve been charged about four times for this but the problem has not been corrected. The last time that the technician was here, he said that if the temperature goes down, my heater is not supposed to work that efficiently. That’s totally bogus because we’ve been in this house for five years and it would always work very well during cold winter.
We should not pay them because when the winter is gone and the next winter comes, the same thing happens. They would just say that it has been more than a month so they couldn’t do it for free. But I've been paying them $75 every time they come in here. I couldn’t get anywhere with American Home Shield. This year I paid about three times. I have been with American Home Shield for about three years for my Flagstaff property and submitting claims with them has been pretty simple. I just go online.

When the washing went into the spin mode, it would stop, then it would get all crazy and out of bounds. It had a sensor of some kind that was completely out of whack. I filed the claim with American Home Shield online and it was super simple. Plus, I got a response really fast. The contractor came out within a day. He was really great and explained everything. He had to order a part and come back though. And it took two weeks to get the part. The washing machine has been good. I’m pretty satisfied with AHS, so far.

We moved in September and we've had American Home Shield for about five months now. It was the home warranty company our broker offered us. The most recent claim my wife submitted with them was for the dryer. She usually does stuff online and she takes care of everything. The claim took about a day or two and it was seamless.

We had a contractor come out and he said that he was going to contact American Home Shield. Then, we never heard anything. So, we called to see what the status was. The technician took pictures of our sump pump and everything else in our basement. They sent that to American Home Shield who denied it. They said that there were other items in our basement and what the technician claimed was that we didn’t use the sump pump for groundwater which is all we use it for. So, we talked to the staff person there and we ended up talking to the supervisor.
The supervisor set up another schedule with another company that I would have to contact to have another person come out which would take our time. They told us that if this person who would come says it is just groundwater, then we would not be charged for his visit. But if it’s the same thing, then we have to be charged. It's a weird thing because it is just a regular sump pump and the purpose is to push out the groundwater that comes into the basement. So, it’s very confusing to us. That was on Friday and when I got home, I got a message from this other contractor to call them to set up an appointment. We have to take another day off work and it was weird how we never got a follow-up. We waited for American Home Shield but no one contacted us.
Usually, we get something back from American Home Shield. The online part was easy but the phone calls and the talk with the associate was long and not what I remember it being like. I tried in the morning but being on hold so long, I had to hang up because I had to go to work. Then, I came back in the afternoon around lunch time and I tried again. It was too long and I had to hang up. It took me a couple of days to finally get through to find out what was going on with the sump pump. Being on the phone and trying to talk to supervisors took a lot of time too. In the last interaction, I didn’t feel like they had our best interest in mind. We pay monthly and I’ve been a customer for 13 years on this. It wasn’t handled properly.

I had a microwave that went out just recently. I called American Home Shield and the first person they sent out was an electrician who said it wasn’t anything in the electrical system. It was the appliance. So, we had a second person come out. I had to call them, when American Home Shield told me who it was, to set up the appointment. They did about three or four visits replacing parts and the microwave kept blowing the parts. They told me that American Home Shield would not replace it. They wanted them to replace more parts. When I asked them if I could call Home Shield to see if we could resolve it sooner and not keep replacing parts, they said that they didn’t have a problem with me doing that. But Home Shield said it wasn’t them. It was the appliance company that was saying they wanted to replace parts.
The tech company was not a good company because I had to call and follow up and find out when they’re coming back out and what’s going on. They would leave the house and say their tech is gonna let the owner call me and tell me what the status is but I’ve never heard from the owner. I would call and ask what’s going on and the rep would say they told him they’re ordering another part and would come back out.
I was without a microwave for almost eight weeks. I was gonna go just buy one and walk away from Home Shield because it seemed like the process was taking too long for a $200 microwave. But we finally got approval. The last person I talked to was amazing. They put me on hold, went to a supervisor and said, “Hey, this shouldn’t be taking this long for the customer.” The supervisor approved for the replacement. Then, I went ahead and called the number and they sent me over my options. I purchased one and I’ve already had it installed. I’ve paid for those fees and I’ve submitted my reimbursement.
The account is in my husband’s name and he has passed away and they asked for a death certificate. I don’t have one and I would have to go to the county and get a death certificate. I need to get his name off the account because he’s not alive anymore. So, that’s where I am. We’re in the process of getting the reimbursement done.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for five or more years and this is the first time I’ve had a reimbursement. A couple of years ago, I fought back and forth with them on my AC unit and I got so tired of trying to get it done until I just went out and bought a new one. My daughter was living there and she was expecting a baby. We had to buy window units and all of that to keep the house cool. When the weather cooled off, I had a new AC unit put into the house. The money that I could’ve put in the bank account from what I’m paying every year, $500, I could’ve bought the appliances. I’m just gonna keep it.
The process is slow and it almost seems like some of the techs are telling me that Home Shield doesn’t wanna replace things so they make them keep coming out. It’s not a service or process that favors the customers, not quickly. Also, their techs are people that need to be a little bit more on top of their game. Some have been very good, but there have been a few that have been terrible. I’ve told Home Shield to not send them back out to my house, including the AC people.

I go to American Home Shield's website when I need something. The website is okay, but when we call, it's a great headache for me. Last summer, I had a very bad experience with American Home Shield. I was holding my phone for 90 minutes. My husband and I had a great fight because it was very different for the recall. There was no option on the website so I called a lady to help me.
I requested her to please put something for the recall. She called American Home Shield warranty and she helped me. She was wonderful and nice. Sears didn’t fix my refrigerator, but it got okay after the sixth time the technician came, and it was Always Repair Home Appliance. It was wonderful. But when you call for the technician they charge $100 every time. I was calling for the recall, but no one was giving me the recall facilities. But although I had a very bad experience, I kept the home warranty because of the lady. Otherwise, I wouldn't have kept it.
The website is wonderful, but I hope they put something for the recall so that someone can understand that the customer is complaining again about the appliance when the thing is not working. The contractor that came out for the microwave was wonderful and he was good. He fixed our microwave and he did well, and he gave me two months' warranty. I said to him that if something happened during the two months, then I will call him for the recall through American Home Shield, and he said they will call.

Unfortunately, 2 months into a move into a new home, my wife and I spotted a leak into our master bedroom. It took 2 plumbers and 3 hours to finally detect the leak. My main goal was to limit the water damage, which was already now extensive and expensive and time was of the essence for a diagnosis and treatment. I read the entirety of the legal contract and recognized that the warranty wasn't going to cover the secondary damage. The plumber found a leaky toilet as the cause after 3 hours of diagnostic workup. I called American Home Shield only asking for replacement of toilet, which was under section 14, coverage of the contract. They said they wouldn't cover it and wanted me to spend another $75 dollars to send another plumber to diagnose the problem, and await typically 3 days. The toilet replacement would cost $450 per my plumber.
I paid $515 for the worthless home warranty. I am generally a big fan of insurance. (I have maximized my fire, earthquake, flood insurance for my home. I even have disability insurance and term life insurance for my estate as well and am happy to protect my family and assets from damage/injury. I pay for health insurance cost, dental insurance and vision coverage as well. I am not one to skimp on insurance cost.) However, I learned a lesson that the home warranty is not really insurance or worth the paper it is printed on. It would be FAR CHEAPER to self insure than to deal with these crooks! I wonder if I can get my money back, but I suspect they won't pay! Bottom line: If you are buying a home, a $515 "warranty" isn't worth the cost, I'd rather self insure!
Hello, Roger. I regret to learn that you have canceled your policy as a result of not sending someone out to replace a faulty toilet. Per the policy, someone from our contractor network would have to be dispatched and a service fee paid. We would not replace any item or system unless a diagnosis report from our contractor advised that is what was needed.

Vendor Selection - for every issue we reported, AHS sent an inefficient and inept vendor to service the problem. In every single instance, we had to call for the vendor to be re-deployed because they did not fix the the issue the first time. In most cases it was impossible to get the vendors on the phone, even during business hours. We ended up having to hire our own companies to get the job done, essentially rendering the warranty useless.
Customer Service - the customer service center for AHS is staffed out of the Philippines. Staff are robotic in their responses, reading from a script, and not understanding (or empathizing) with the concerns of the customer. They follow policy to a fault - allowing the company to protect itself from refunds or legal issues even in situations where they would be better served by admitting a failure to properly serve and addressing the consumer concerns. Our experience has been so poor that we will be cancelling our contract before a full year has been reached. With leaders from companies like Amazon, Lyft, etc at the helm, I would expect a better level of service, but AHS is simply not meeting an acceptable standard.

I was under the understanding that when I bought the policy it would cover all charges. I've had the policy for 20 years. Each month I pay $39 for coverage. Recently I had a problem with my heater. I was told that the part I needed had to be upgraded and I would be charged $300. Nowhere in the policy does it state that I would be charged if a part had to be upgraded. There are also some questionable charges on the estimate. I bought this policy for peace of mind which now I do not have. Nor do I have heat.

I have purchased American Home Shield since 2009 and am completely satisfied with their coverage. I have had several service calls and all of them were handled efficiently and completely to my satisfaction. Most recently, on 25 January 2019, I submitted an online service request because one of our central A/C systems was not providing heating. I received an e-mail response from American Home Shield with an hour, with the name and contact information of the A/C contractor who would handle the service. They also arranged a schedule for the service call on Monday, 28 January. However, since we were at our lake house only for the weekend, the schedule didn't work.
Using the contact information, I contacted the A/C contractor and arranged a service call for Saturday. They found that the problem was a bad circuit breaker and said that I should contact Home Shield to arrange for an electrical contractor to change out the breaker. I called American Home Shield and elected the option for a "callback" because they had a 30-minute waiting queue. Home Shield called back in 32 minutes. The customer service agent quickly made arrangements for an electrical contractor to make a service call and assured me that there would not be an additional fee from me. She also said that if the replacement of the circuit breaker did not resolve the problem, the A/C contractor would be sent back out - again, at no extra charge. We haven't completed the repair yet, but I am completely satisfied with the processing by American Home Shield. I am very happy that I purchased an American Home Shield policy and kept it in effect.

We were having a stoppage so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. WesTech Plumbing came and they were awesome. They cleared the stoppage out and it didn't take them long to do that. I filed the claim over the phone because I wanted to make sure that AHS would not send the one plumbing company out of the three that are set for Lubbock that is not allowed on my property anymore. In 2017, that plumbing company got their snake stuck in my house. I was without plumbing for a week. They told me that they had to break through our floor to get their snake out and when they showed up to do that, it took them 10 minutes to get it out. We had that stupid thing in our house for a week! Then they tried to tell us that our pipes were still crushed but then there were no crushed pipes at all.
American Home Shield is okay with me telling them that I do not want that plumbing company to come out to our house, but since that company is still listed as plumbers for Lubbock, we still have to keep telling them that we do not want that company and that they're not allowed on any of our properties. Also, one thing about AHS is that when you call them, it takes too long - like an hour long - to get a hold of somebody. It shouldn’t take that long just to talk to somebody. It’s a ridiculous process.

My refrigerator is a three-compartment type. It has a refrigerator on top, a crisper drawer in the middle that's completely separate and a freezer down the bottom. We came home one time and the door where the filter is put in was open. The back of the filter was completely blown off and the water was going everywhere. So we cleaned up everything and took the filter out. We got a new filter a couple days later and went to run the water to flush the new filter. When we did that, the back side of the refrigerator down into the freezer compartment and the middle drawer were filling up with water. We chased the line from the back of the refrigerator down, we couldn’t see anything and so the problem would have been an internal compartment.
I called American Home Shield and they sent out Battle Born. Their tech came out and he said that it should be fine. He went to run the water and as soon as he did, the refrigerator did the same thing. He then said that we were gonna have AHS replace the refrigerator entirely or we could use a repair kit that he wasn't sure they could get a hold of as our refrigerator was four years old. He left and thereafter, I got the request order for RC Willey to come out.
The other guy should have diagnosed it a little bit further because he just came out with the original report that I sent AHS that didn't have all the details of what Battle Born knew had gone on. My understanding from Battle Born was they were gonna send AHS a complete report and then AHS was gonna either order the repair kit or make arrangements to replace the refrigerator. However, the guy from RC Willey is starting from scratch because there was no information other than the original report that was sent to him. If he’s gonna have to go back and order parts, I would be on a third visit to try to get the refrigerator fixed and three weeks down of a freezer.
The guy from Battle Born was great. He was super friendly and it seemed like he knew what he was doing. However, I don’t know where the lost in translation got, from him writing the report to ordering the parts to sending me somebody who is brand new. AHS needs to have a better process wherein when they call somebody it's getting done. I’ve taken two afternoons off work and now, I’m gonna have to take a third afternoon off work because the people that they’re dispatching aren’t able to solve the problem. I would think that if AHS is sending the refrigerator repair person out here, they would have what they needed or they could run to Home Depot and get the parts that were needed and fix the problem rather than me having to keep taking time off work.

My experience has been good, but this has been a bit on the frustrating side. We are not able to set the temperature with the tub shower valve. The water goes cold to freezing cold. We also have some leaking toilets and a set screw on our tub shower valve handle in my other bathroom.
When the contractors came out, they were fine. Both of the companies were fine and they seemed competent and seemed to know what they were doing. However, the follow-through has not been really great. Sometimes there would be quite a little wait between the time the contractor first came out and the time they came back and finish taking care of things. The second one did a couple of repairs right then at the first visit, which was encouraging to me to see because the first guy didn’t do anything. He could have replaced the flaws in the toilets and the overflow valve in the tub. Those should be things that any plumber should have onboard on his truck. The second guy that came out did and he took care of those things, but he still has to come back for the valve repair and for the handle. He had to order but apparently, it is back ordered.

My experience with American Home Shield was not very pleasant. For almost three months, I was constantly receiving email or phone call from them that I had not made the payment for one of the home service they provided for me. All the way to the end of November, I have been harassed by them, telling me that I owe them $75, which I do not appreciate. And each time, I was reminding them we cancelled that vendor, and the vendor did not even come to our house. If I would have wanted to use that vendor, I should have been home twice and because of my teaching schedule during summer, I could not afford to cancel any of my classes.
I think AHS owes me in a big way. They told me that someone would come for my furnace, and then someone else would come for my air conditioning. I told them that I didn't want that kind of arrangement. There was no way I would stay at home on two different times for someone to come and check something, which should be done by one vendor. AHS should know better than anybody else to deal with their customers, especially customers like us, who have been with them for more than 15 years. If they do care, they have to make me happy and should do something for me.

The main kitchen faucet was leaking. I called American Home Shield and the first time that I had to call for the issue, a guy came out and it didn’t go too well. The guy stated that there would be a new faucet needed because he couldn’t open the leakage part. He couldn’t fix it. I have three holes and the new unit that they would replace it with would be an extremely cheap kind. It was something that would be functional, but it would not necessarily go with the house value. I wasn't happy about that part. Then, I didn’t do much about it, but the issue was still going on, so I had to call for a second time. And on the second time, I had to pay another 100 bucks just to get people to come over. The next person fixed it and right now, it seems like it’s fixed. I’m still fine with American Home Shield but it would be nice if they cover more.

My washing machine was not spinning so I called American Home Shield to file a claim which was easy. Then, the contractor was really good and polite. They called before they came and they were very prompt. It didn’t take 20 minutes for them to fix what the issue was. It smelled like smoke once they fixed it but after three or four washes, it went away. So, I’m guessing that was some whatever he used to lubricate the part that he put on and I haven’t had any issues with the smell of rubber burning since. They are a reputable company and I would use them again.

I like submitting claims over the phone, because in the past when we've done it online, sometimes they’ve cut it and sometimes it’d take a few days. So, I'd rather just call. That way, I know that it's getting taken care of right there and then. Their customer service skills stand out. I love talking to them. They're always very polite, helpful and professional, and I like that. Some companies, you call and they're either grumpy or just don’t wanna talk. American Home Shield has always been really good. That’s why I've been with them for so long since we've been in here in 2004.
The contractors have always been pretty good. There was this one gentleman that came to fix our refrigerator and he had to come back, that he needed some kind of a part. He was very nice and did a great job. But this last time with the microwave, the first guy that came didn’t look like he was too thrilled to be doing the job and he said it was the sensor, and that the following week he would have to order the part. But they never came back. American Home Shield called us and let us know that they were sending someone else out here. The second one that came was a wonderful and polite gentleman and was quick to take care of the problem. It wasn’t even the part that the other gentleman had said. The second appliance guy did a really good job. He loves to talk and my husband loves to talk to him. They did a wonderful job, promptly, and they had very good customer service skill.

My furnace has been squeaking most of the time and I wanted somebody to come in. Another company told me that I needed a new wheel and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for that. The contractor who came out said I didn't need that and he was able to fix the furnace without the wheel. He explained the different parts of it and what he felt was going on. He addressed the issue and then it was fixed. He was great and very professional the whole time. However, I was not told by AHS that my price was gonna go up. If they did, it was in a way that I didn’t notice. So, that was something I wasn’t super thrilled with. It didn’t go up too much though and AHS is a good investment.

This review is coming from a longtime customer. BUYERS BEWARE!!! The company has become so big that people are no longer looked at customers but just a ID number. The only quick connection you will get with them is when you're looking to sign up. Once you become a member and need to use them prepare yourself for a very very long wait time and I’m not exaggerating. I have had a continuous issue with my central air since November and have had to continually call in for a recall service where even senior technicians have come out just to replace different parts for the unit to stop working days later. I’ve lost time from work having to be home for the continuous service calls. I’ve had to be on emergency heat throughout the winter months.
My grave concern is that the AC won’t be fixed by the time the FL hot humid summers hit which if broken and the house can’t cool will start to cause mold in the house (if it gets to that point I will be forced to retain a lawyer). Keep in mind this a 4 year old house. To think that I have to actually plan for my AC not to work by summer seems ludicrous but unfortunately with American Home Shield this is my current status. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM when they say they will repair or replace because it is untrue. Forget about dealing with a customer complaint resolution dept.
Basically a resolution supervisor told me that unless the AC don’t turn on AHS is not replacing. So I am now expected to call for recall service every 4-5 days miss work to be available for the appointments and watch my AC unit continue to be rebuilt in front of my eyes with no AHS relief in sight. Thank you Sierra for your cookie cutter answers and careless attitude toward your customers and hanging up on me as done on 01/25/19 1040 hrs.
AHS we as paying customers expect you to represent us with the contract repair companies. You should be standing up for your customers but you have failed in the name of the mighty dollar. I no longer refer you to friends and co workers but in fact steer people away telling them about the horrific service that your company has become. SO PLEASE, PLEASE BUYERS BEWARE.

Everything I’ve asked for, American Home Shield fixed. But one thing that wasn’t covered was the garage door cable, and the people that they sent were really shady. The guy said it would cost me $350, but I refused to pay. I told him that I would just call my buddy who does garage doors, and then he asked me how much I wanna pay and lowered the cost to $200. I told American Home Shield about the contractor through a survey, and then they reached out to me and asked me what happened. They said they were gonna put the contractor on the no-call list or do not contact list anymore. But everything else, I’ve had no issues.
When my heater wasn’t kicking on when it was supposed to, American Home Shield sent out Air First Mechanical. I had to hit the breaker and then the heater would come on and then it would shut off. It wasn’t staying on. I was definitely afraid that this was gonna cost me thousands of dollars. But when the Air First tech came out and cleaned the sensor with some sandpaper, it was done. I was really happy with the Air First because anybody else would have told me that I needed some things. The tech fixed it in 10 minutes, and he showed me what it was and told me that I could now fix it myself.
Some of the service people told me that American Home Shield is one of the better home warranties that they deal with. They don’t have a problem getting paid. But it’s hard as hell to get ahold of American Home Shield on the phone. When I have a question and I wanna talk to somebody, I’ve never spoke to anybody. But whenever I do the request on my app or online, within an hour or two, I have somebody calling me and setting up an appointment. I’m really happy with them, and I’ll renew again. I’ve also told some of my friends about them.

The time was sufficient and they were here on time, and it was nice. My husband was at work when they came out, but I was here. The plumber was great. He called before and said he was on his way, which was good. He wasn’t here too long to find out what the problem was and it didn’t take long for him to finish the work, so we had some small talk for two to three minutes. He completed it, then went to his next stop. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had a leak underneath a toilet, and it just kept coming back. I submitted a claim to AHS and they sent somebody out pretty much immediately. However, It just took them a long time to hunt the leak down. The contractors came back several times, kept changing the wax ring, and we never did see any crack at the porcelain or anything like that on the toilet. And the house was built in the 80s, and we never had a problem with it. But we finally just decided to swap out the toilet itself and that finally did it.
The contractors were great. The thing is, everybody was really frustrated but I was calm because I realized that it wasn't a black and white issue. And so, they were really professional and they never got frustrated. They never suggested that I was wacky or anything. Everybody was polite. And we just hung in there with each other until it was done.
The only thing I get a little frustrated about with AHS is it's really hard to get a hold of a person. And I am a real estate agent in Las Vegas, and I recommend American Home Shield to a lot of my clients. I know that while it's convenient to have the online request for service, I wish that they had an area where you could explain more in detail what was going on, rather than just clicking on say, "it's a problem with the toilet." And the other thing is as far as the company that they used, which was Advanced Home, I just wanna make sure that I don't blame them. Sometimes, we have to track things down.
Hi, Cynthia. Thank you for letting us know of your service experience. I do hope that the phone hold times are cut down greatly in the months to come.

I normally file a claim with American Home Shield through a phone call, although there’s an app now. But with the phone, I can talk to a person and relate what my issue is. I had a visit by an electrician who made it well known that he really did not like to be there. I asked him if there was an issue and I guess he didn’t like the problem that I was having. It was either too easy or his time was better used in a more difficult issue. He was very rude. I just took a really negative experience away and started looking at other options as to how I can take care of my home.

My shower didn’t produce hot water anymore. The valve had gone bad. My wife called American Home Shield to file a claim and she talked to someone. They had a plumber come out. He looked at it but he couldn't fix it because it was a Peerless which was not allowed to be repaired. So, he had to order one and then he returned and repaired it. He had to cut an access hole to get to the back side of it and it all worked fine. But then, I didn’t realize that they didn’t do the sheetrock so we had to get back with American Home Shield and tell them where we were at. The sheetrock gentleman came out and patched a hole up for us. I thought the entire process would be taken care of, but they had still left something for me to do, which is to texture and paint it.
It was not big of a hole though so there weren’t any problems with any cold coming through. There was a lack of communication from the plumber to AHS. It was during the holidays too, so we were contented that we had hot water again in the master shower at Christmas time. The contractors did a great job. The sheetrock guy was phenomenal. He was in and out and showed me a couple little tricks on how to fix the texture. He also told me where to get the stuff. The plumber was also professional and tidy. We are on three acres and we have a valve at our house. He did not want to shut it off but rather, he opted to go to our street which was a smart move for him because it is a steel valve. He told me that they have not had any luck with the plastic valve. It was what the previous owners had put in. So, he erred on the side of caution and I appreciated it. He was in and out and I didn’t have a problem.
However, what AHS paid for the plumber to come out and do it was a little high. I also paid an additional 400 out of my pocket and American Home Shield paid 500. It was $900 for a plumber to come out, cut a hole in the wall and replace a valve. We used to have plumbers in Houston and I did not have to pay anything like that before, even out of my own pocket. It is something that American Home Shield should look into with that contractor and I thought they may be charging them a little much. Nevertheless, American Home Shield handled everything and they held up their end of the bargain.
Good morning Jeffrey,
We are pleased to hear about your AHS experience and the contractor that repaired the hot water heater. We hope that you continue to enjoy your experience with American Home Shield.

They also answered the questions, solved the problems and got a hold of Poe’s all within hours. The claim was regarding a leak in the laundry room and the issue was actually a very simple fix. I've been with American Home Shield for about 12 years now and I usually submit claims over the phone. The reps have been very helpful and the contractors that have been sent out were generally knowledgeable. I’ve had plumbers, appliance workers and a garage door person come out, and no one has left the job undone. When the buttons of the dishwasher were inoperative, A-Town was able to take care of it. They were supposed to look at the stove too because the handles were loose, but they failed to do that. Still, American Home Shield's home warranty program is worth a thousand times over. If you have any big type of repair, you don’t have to pay upfront. The $75 copay is really nothing in comparison to that.

It was a $85 plastic foaming protector part. Still charged 125 service fee. Who does that? Spent more money going to laundromat while they took their time! It took 4 phone calls just to get an answer on the part status that was readily available.
A Casa Blanca ceiling fan that needed to be replaced $700 value without installation. Took 2 months to resolve and 2 contractors we purchased the fan $400 in advance since it was a high ceiling and made it convenient for service tech to take down and then replace on same day. To date after contractor submitted no reimbursement and when he pushed for it he was told only $100 credit would be given for replace!!! FRAUD. Replace contract says like for like NOT replace cheapest out there.

Finally, I was TOLD, not asked, that they would make the service call 1-2 hours LATER. I refused & gave the electrician company an earful about customer service. I might add that they lied about the service window!
Anyway, when I called AHS to get me another service provider, it became a 1/2 hour ordeal & they still couldn’t come up with anybody! This in a city the size of Las Vegas! I think that explains the attitude of the original service provider. They’re locked in! The AHS rep I was talking to even implied I NEVER HAD AN APPOINTMENT at all, & even the electrician never claimed that! Finally, I just asked for my $75 service fee back & will make my own arrangements. I get it’s the electrician I'm most unhappy with, but AHS certainly didn’t resolve the issue, either. If this occurs again, I might as well try another home warranty company.

Spoke to a great person Nathan and next week 2/1/2019 iPlumb came and put switch. Question: 1) iPlumb didn’t fix the original switch. Instead they put a switch hanging separately by the side. l’d like add a pic of that. 2) When I asked they told me that’s all they sent us. 3) I called Bradford White. Got the part# and researched it and found that it could have been done in right way. They just did a handyman’s job.
5) My final question to AHS is this way the service tone done or this needs to be done professionally. Last year I had another plumbing issue and JED Plumbing company came, did excellent service. They had to order parts too. I never opened a ‘recall’, they never closed the repair order until it’s fixed. Also they called me few days after to find out how is System working and the technician was great guy. I was looking for that kind of service. Not a handyman job. I like to thank AHS for always keeping a professional proactive approach. I attached pic of their work to understand if this is the correct way to do service.
Original Review: American Home Shield sent a contractor name IPLUMB to fix my water heater. Ignition switch was not working. As a result I couldn't turn it on. They came. Couldn't fix it. If you want us to do the work $275/ per hour + $50 Inspection and the parts you have to pay". Right away I called American Home Shield 1/19/2019 and explained to Tori. Today is 1/23/2019. I want to like AHS. I put in a request for service on 12/20/18. My shower water was not hot, however, the water was hot everywhere else (kitchen, bathroom, sinks). I paid AHS a deductible for someone to come to my home. He takes 5 minutes to INCORRECTLY assess and leave. He says he can't fix the problem without busting out my bathroom wall. I knew that this couldn't possibly be correct. So after a few weeks of tepid water, on 1/12/19 I pay another plumber out of pocket who fixed the problem WITHOUT busting my shower wall. Took him 30 minutes max. He took the fixture off of the wall, assessed the situation and fixed the problem.
What's the point of having AHS if I have to pay someone else to fix the problem after paying a monthly fee for "expert" service as well as a deductible? THEN have to pay more out of pocket... I call on 1/12/19 after the plumber I hired leaves and spoke to a representative who tells me that my deductible will be reimbursed in 3-5 business days. That was 11 days ago. I am disappointed. No call, no email, nothing. I don't want to cancel however, I am not happy about the situation.

However once the company came out to diagnose the problem we got a call from American Home Shield the very next day stating that indeed the hot water tank needed to be replaced but we were going to be subject to a $125 fee for replacement of a new fitting needed for the replacement hot water tank! Come on American Home Shield. We know this is your way of recouping some of the expense of having to replace the hot water tank. I live in the mountains, in a fairly remote area and they did the replacement within 7 to 10 days. The only caveat to this experience was that AHS billed me twice. But once I called them, they fixed it.
Thanks for providing your feedback Terri. We look forward to handling your warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

When we filed a claim with AHS we had two people that had the potential to come out. So we had something wrong with our stove, and we also had something wrong that wasn’t covered on our homeowners that they were in just like a dual. The initial people that were going to come out were truly horrific and rude. They were waiting on our gate trying to get in, and I said, “I don't know why you're waiting at my gate when I don’t even have you on my schedule.” Their head goes, “Well, obviously, you didn’t write me down.”
I told them Home Shield said they would set up the appointment but they never called me to set the up the appointment. He said, “No. We have a set date.” I said, “No, you didn’t.” It took 45 days for us to not work with him. And then by the time AHS sent the next contractor, Hudson, it was within days. Hudson was awesome. We had used them prior to moving in because of some venting issues and they were phenomenal. Their technician was real knowledgeable and very helpful. It was close to the holiday time that I needed the work done and when he knew that we had already been frustrated he tried to make sure it was all expedited for me.
We had to fully restart the whole oven, turn it off with all the technical stuff and then restart it again. It would do okay but every now and then it would act up. Eventually, the motherboard does go wonky in these things. The newer ones have better seals, but their stoves are so expensive. But beyond that, it's a great stove. So he fixed that, and it really wasn’t expensive. The price was pretty fair for him coming out and giving us his time, and then taking care of the other stuff for us. AHS is really good about getting schedules with us. So far, we've been very pleased. That was why we went ahead and extended with them because it was just too convenient.

We had a leak under our sink from the garbage disposal, and so we gave American Home Shield a call. We do dishes every night, so the disposal run almost every night, and the fact that it was leaking all of the water that went through it whether or not it was on caused a little challenge under the sink with water. AHS sent out Matt's Plumbing Service and they came out the day after really quickly. It was a really good and quick turnaround. When it all went through, they ended up replacing the disposal because there were actual holes all the way through the disposal due to age.
We've used Matt's Plumbing Service through AHS before. We had a plumbing issue before and we've been very happy with them, and so we requested them. We can't do that on the internet. So, we always call in order to request them to be put on the ticket. It might be nice if the website allowed us to select a preferred vendor. It might be a challenge for them given the number of vendors they use. So, I understand if they don’t.
Good morning Donnel,
We greatly appreciate the feedback that you have shared regarding your American Home Shield experience. We hope that you continue to enjoy the level of customer service that our contractors have exuded.

One problem after another with AHS and now I’m being ghosted with no one responding to my complaints. Sewer line is backing up into my washing machine. It’s been over a week and still haven’t had anyone resolve it. Now I’m worried my washing machine is damaged from having sewer water sit it in for over a week. They have no motivation to resolve your problem. They already have your money.
Good morning Stephanie,
I understand your frustration regarding the delay in service you experienced to have the plumbing issue repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I've had to use AHS twice and this second time was very frustrating. It's always good until the company makes an error and owe the customer money and refuse to pay for the customer's overdraft fees. I put in initial request for service on 11/27/18 for my refrigerator going out. Tech came out to fix but still didn't work. Put in another request in on 12/05/18 and tech came out to re-check and said some hose not working and will need new refrigerator (which had to be ordered). Fast forward I received notice back in Nov informing my $125 tech fee will be deducted 12/07/18.
I found out my personal acct was compromised and I called to inform billing dept at AHS that I know my tech payment not due until 12/07 but wanted to give a heads up and rep suggested she just take my bank info out of system just in case issue isn't resolved and to prevent any other issues happen regarding my acct. AHS submitted payment before 12/07 and did it multiple time which generated my acct to accrue NSF fees ( 6 times). I emailed my bank statement to supervisor Mark ** and a Kevin ** but no one called me back. Right today I'm still battling this situation. My contract is up 06/2018 and I can't wait to get out of this madness.
Good morning Veronica,
I understand your concerns regarding the service fee charges. I would be glad to speak with you and get the account issues corrected.

I never write reviews but I want others to stay away from this company. We made a claim on Jan 2nd and a few days later the contractor came to our home looked at our fridge and said okay I have to order a part and will be back in 5-7 days. Well that was the first lie. Called 10 days later and the part was just ordered. Okay so on Jan 22 they came back out with the wrong part. Said they had to reorder part and it would be another 5-7 days. Now today the company will not answer the phone. If you call the home warranty company they have the same message that they are busy at the moment. So today we have been without a fridge since Jan 2nd with no clue when it will be fixed or if it ever will.
Good morning Kelly,
I understand your concerns regarding your most recent experience on the refrigerator service claim. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

American Home Shield, which we are not happy with, contacted Sears on Dec 16, to diagnose our Samsung dishwasher. A previous company submitted a report to AHS that the unit had to be replaced so they contacted Sears for a second opinion. A "senior" technician has been trying to repair the unit ever since to no avail. When I told him about the previous company's diagnosis, his response was that as long as he could order parts, he will continue to try to fix it.
We have been without a dishwasher for a month and a half, at the mercy of a senior repairmen. The parts ordered, To include the motherboard, far exceeds the price of the dishwasher. It is to Sears advantage business wise to continue to waste our time by coming in and attempting to fix the dishwasher. Their carelessness and selfishness really affected us as a family. I will not recommend either Sears repair nor American Home Shield to anyone. Their loyalties are to themselves not the customers.
Good morning Marie,
I understand your concerns regarding the delay in service and ongoing repairs to the dishwasher. I would be glad to speak with you and proceed with the replacement to reach a resolution.

AHS has been a total nightmare. I will never again seek a warranty with them and will make it a goal to prevent others from seeking their services. I purchased my second home in October and opted to invest in an AHS home warranty. In November, both of our ice makers in our Frigidaire stopped working. We contacted AHS and paid the $80 fee to have the servicer come and look at them. Since their technicians are only available M-F from 8-5, my husband had to take a vacation day. The servicer from Sears inspected our refrigerator and advised that he would need to request parts in order to repair it. Once the parts had arrived, another service appointment was scheduled... requiring my husband to eat up another vacation day.
The servicer supposedly 'repaired' our ice makers during the next appointment, but the following day, neither had produced any ice. My husband reached out to AHS again to let them know that the attempts to repair our refrigerator were unsuccessful. We were informed that another service appointment would need to be scheduled. My husband AGAIN had to take another vacation day, just so the Sears servicer could tell us that there was no longer anything they could do and that the unit would need replaced. He advised that he would communicate this to AHS and that we should hear from them within a few days. We did not. So we had to call AHS back and ask what was going on with our replacement. They advised that they had not received the necessary information from Sears and that it may take another week. We were again told that we should hear something within a a few days. THAT WAS OVER A MONTH AGO!
After waiting over a month, we called back and were told that we would need ANOTHER service appointment to verify the ice makers were not fixable! Why? This had already been established a month prior!! The customer service rep with AHS (and then her supervisor) advised that they would try to contact Sears and get this sorted out so we could get our replacement. The supervisor informed us that she would contact Sears personally and then call us back on the 21st of this month. Obviously, we didn't receive that call. Of course. We did however, receive a text from Sears saying we had a service appointment scheduled for the 22nd. Three things wrong with this. 1.) We didn't ask for or approve this. 2.) We did not need this scheduled. 3.) My husband refuses to take another vacation day for this disgrace of a warranty company.
So we called AHS to have the service appointment canceled. During this call, we again spoke to a supervisor. We voiced our frustration with having a service appointment scheduled without our approval and the fact that we needed the 4th service appointment at all! This individual also promised that he would reach out to Sears for the documentation that AHS needed in order to get our replacement.
He lied. My husband just received a text from Sears saying that they are coming to our home today for a service appointment. Well good luck, Sears. We aren't home. And we aren't home because AHS didn't ask for our approval to schedule this appointment. And even if they had, we would have said no. AHS is not going to eat up my husband's entire year of vacation days in order to accommodate their shady business tactics. We are in the process of seeking reimbursement and cancellation of the entire policy. Homeowners and consumers beware!
Good morning Tara,
I understand your concerns and frustration regarding your most recent experience to have the refrigerator and ice maker repaired through your HS warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

12/18/18 notified AHS we lost heat. First assigned contractor did not call back. They assigned new one who came on 12/20. Determined we needed new furnace. As of today, 1/22/19, we still have no furnace. The contractor has made appointments to install it but never followed through. Many excuses were given. AHS is not resolving this issue. We have called repeatedly requesting to speak to someone in authority who can take accountability for this but no one has helped us. I am in a wheelchair and my husband has heart failure. We are using space heaters in 10° weather. Our health is suffering.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.
