Our sink wasn't draining so I called American Home Shield and everything was smooth when I was submitting the claim. The contractor came out in a couple of days and it was fine with the tech when he came out. He evaluated and said what needed to be done.

I recently bought a house and it was standard to change the lock. I made an online claim for that and American Home Shield's website was very easy to use. The only hiccup I had was my realtor was paying for the service for me. I had to give her my log-in information so she could log in and pay on my behalf. Otherwise, I had an amazing technician who came and changed my locks. It was really easy and he was in and out. I had an all-around pleasant experience. American Home Shield was great and did exactly what I expected them to do.

I had no electricity on a wall in my living room and I submitted a claim for it over the phone to which I immediately got through to somebody. Since it was electricity, somebody called me back and was out the next morning. Electrical Services was the assigned contractor and they handled the claim great. It ended up that there was a plug that was stopping a circuit from going through and so they replaced the actual socket. The electrician also explained what he was doing, why it happened, and how to prevent it from happening again. I wish I remembered I had American Home Shield's coverage when the other things have happened. Nevertheless, I recommended American Home Shield to somebody the other day.

We had a problem with the toilet where we had to flush it more than once for it to flush. Our garbage disposal wasn’t working, too. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. Their website was user-friendly. The technician from Mr. Rooter Plumbing was excellent. He came in and took care of the problems.

Having a warranty for our property has been very valuable thus far and I've used it many times. When our dishwasher was leaking all over our floor and the handle to shut it was broken, I went online to put in a claim for repair to American Home Shield. Navigating through their website was straightforward and I didn't have a hard time. Getting a contractor out had to be within 48 hours. We had a fine interaction with the contractor. They were professional and I didn’t have any problems with them. I was on the phone when H.A.R. Appliance Repair's technician came by but I showed him what needed to be done. I had talked to him on the phone prior, and he had described what needed to happen. Since he left, everything’s still working fine.

We have several houses with American Home Shield and we have been with them for a year now. We mostly place our claims online but whenever we have questions, their reps have always been very professional and they help us. We are satisfied with the service so far. Their contractor responds within 24 hours and they will come back if they need to. They will also tell us if they need to place an order then they will let us know whenever they come back to fix it. I would recommend American Home Shield.

We own three homes, and we have American Home Shield currently on our three houses. I go online when submitting a claim to them and usually the same day, someone reaches out to us and schedules an appointment. Our icemaker stopped working on our refrigerator and AHS sent their contractor, Air Squad Heating & Air Conditioning, LLC to come out. The contractor was great. Any time we’re ever in contact, it was always positive and very good. Our other home in Las Vegas had a problem with the washer then the toilet had a problem. AHS' contractor came out and fixed them. The icemaker is working great. We're very happy. I highly recommend American Home Shield. Even if we have rental properties, it’s nice to have a warranty, so we don’t have to worry about anything. The contractor will just come out and fix whatever we have.

I had an issue with the plumbing guy who came. He didn't know where to unstop the plumbing. I was sitting there, and if he had really looked, it was right outside on the front side of the driveway. So, when he stood aside, he said he didn’t know what to do. And he went out a couple times trying to figure out what to do. He said we may have to take the toiled out and then he said if he took the toilet out, he would not be able to contain it because it was too large to fit into my house. So, he said he might have to dig the brass up. I thought it was Christmas Eve by that time and folk would be coming over for dinner. By the time he got there, it was almost 3:30 and he was not able to do it. So, I made a decision to call Roto-Rooter. When I called Roto-Rooter, it cost me 240 something dollars.

I talked with American Home Shield to see if they would do something. And they said they would not reimburse Roto-Rooter. So, I had $600 out of my pocket because American Home Shield didn’t cover certain things with the hot water heater. The gentleman, Justin, who came for the plumbing wrote on his report that he could not find it. He didn’t look around the house. Roto-Rooter who has never been to my house before went right on it and found what they needed to find. But submitting the claim over the phone wasn’t difficult, except for we always had about a 45-minute wait for AHS to answer. I’d have to sit on the phone, every time. Except for Justin, the contractors who came were very nice and efficient. They were able to resolve the problem.

I’ve always had really good luck with all of the companies that American Home Shield has sent us. We’ve had the same people for a number of years. This last time, however, they sent out somebody totally different, who were just standard. They just came in, took pictures, said it wasn’t their problem and left. So, I called AHS and we had a discussion on getting a second opinion.

AHS was very supportive in getting a second opinion and they sent out another company who fixed the problem. We had some water issues with our faucets, and we had that fixed. I’m still having some issues with my dishwasher, though. But the hardest thing is the wait time on the phone when I wanna talk to a representative. Sometimes, I wait for two hours to talk to somebody. So if the issue is a simple thing that can be done online, that would be fine. It was very fast when I submitted online. All in all, I would recommend this company. My son is now doing AHS also, so I obviously have recommended them.

My AC went out and we paid $75 for the repair. But we had to stay in a hotel for one week, which we also paid for, because American Home Shield didn’t have anyone to come up right away and fix our AC because it was very hot. We also paid for Freon which didn’t work. So the second time it happened, they said that somebody would have to come every six months to check our unit. They charged me for $300 something but after one month my AC messed up again.

A guy from Royal AC came and he wanted to fix my AC but he didn't have the part. He also told me that my unit was very old and it would always go out. I needed to replace it but he said that American Home Shield would not replace it. And for one week, we ordered whatever parts needed for the AC. My husband is 72 years old and he had surgery. It was also very cold and we were waiting, so we had no choice. Finally, we let Royal AC fix our unit but we paid for it. We were told that if a unit is not fixable, AHS would replace it. But our AC was not working every six months and we kept paying for repairs that didn’t work. And it was not a very good experience. I’m with AHS for six years and they need to fix themselves.

There was something going on with the LED lights inside our fridge and with its panel and I think there was some issue with that. I called American Home Shield up and their reps were professional to speak with. They told me what company was gonna come out. The company called, made an appointment, and came out. But I was not impressed with them so AHS sent me another company and that was Texas Gulf Coast Service Center. They did a good job and the problems were fixed.

I have been with AHS for not more than five years and there were a couple of contractors that I did not like based upon what they show when they come to my residence. If I don’t like them, I call American Home Shield and just say that the contractor is not gonna work for me. I’ve had to make the change, and AHS made me change with no problem. They need to investigate more of the people that they send out to our home and make sure that they’re sending good people to our residence. Other than that, everything’s fine with my experience and I’d recommend American Home Shield.

Worth the read for detailed account of the headache of working with this company - all factual and with documented proof along the way: I experienced a roof leak shortly after moving into my new home. I called for a contractor to come out to my home. They informed me that there was only one they approved in the area. After calls and texts, he did not return any. Home Shield stated I could use my own as this was an emergency, but not until they spoke with him. This took him >60min wait. After being told he could complete the job, they said a check would be mailed within 2 weeks. This was 11/2/2018.

After no check, I called back (each call wait is >45min with this company) and told that he needed to submit ANOTHER receipt of repair (even though this was already done, and that's why the check had not been mailed). This was done the next day and told I would have a check within 21 business days. It has now been over 1 month, and still no sign of repayment. Multiple calls have been placed, but the departments in this company don't communicate. For instance, once you finally get someone on the phone, they say, "Oh, that would be through accounting, let me transfer... [30-60min]" "Oh, that would be reimbursement, let me transfer... [30-60min]" Finally was able to speak with someone who said they would look into this case and call me back the same day. That was over a week ago.

Long story short, this is the worst customer service I have ever worked with and almost seems borderline scam-ish to the point where I've been advised by MY REALTY COMPANY who sold this to me to pursue legal representation. Would caution anyone who needs something done quickly or who needs to talk with a person from using this company. I am now almost 4 months from proof of repair with NO reimbursement for a warranty I paid almost as much for as the reimbursement would be for repair.

My first-year premium was $30.99. My second-year premium was $31.99. My third-year premium has gone up to $36.99 with no explanation as to why there is such a large increase. I used it once in the last year. My policy covers 10 appliances. I am currently on hold, trying to get an answer to my question. I've been on hold for 25 minutes. Also, I found out last June that no changes can be made to the appliances that are covered until your policy is up for renewal. So, when I purchased a brand new heating/air conditioning system in June, I wanted to remove those "appliances" from coverage as I would have at least 3 years coverage through the company/manufacturer. I was told to wait until February 2019, my policy anniversary month. So, from June 2018 through February 2019, I am paying for coverage for my AC/Heating when I don't need the coverage.

The format on this webpage is also not allowing me enough space to give you the details from this customer service experience. I have been able to reach a representative, but she has put me on hold for no less than five times. She is polite, but at this point, not particularly helpful. I was just put on hold for the sixth time. While I had someone on the line, I asked why I had to wait until February to switch out appliances. She couldn't answer the question. She will be calling back tomorrow to hopefully answer both of my questions. Currently, my rating is two stars. If I don't hear from them tomorrow, I will lower it to one star.

Zero stars: I would not recommend using American Home Shield as your home warranty provider. Nor would I recommend the Hornet Appliance Services LLC. I have been trying to get our oven fixed under the warranty since November 2018. You can't ever speak to anyone at American HS. You're on hold for hours. Hornet is the opposite they get on the phone fast and get off the phone fast, they talk over you and don't listen. Hornet has been out 4 times. Twice just to say, "It's broken and we need parts." The exact same parts they replaced the first time and said it was fixed.

Today I have been on hold for a total of 2.5 hrs with American Home Shield. Each time I call I have to go through the prompts to wait an hour to speak to someone who then has to put me on hold even though I ask them not to, in order to review my file. JUST TO BE HUNG UP ON!!! once they read the file. So the third time I called and finally got someone I asked for a manager that never never showed up!!! Got hung up again. I will not be renewing our service with AHS.

Every representative assured me it was cancelled and my credit card was removed. This was not true. They would charge me again the following month. I asked for a refund since they were not authorized to charge my credit card. No one can help me except the Retention Department. They have been ignoring my voicemail messages for one month. I cannot get a supervisor or another customer service representative to help me. They refuse to give me anyone else except Tammy who was assigned my case. They only cover the electrical located on the inside of your home... That’s funny, where does it say that in my contract, oh that’s right it doesn’t!! I was instructed from AHS rep to contact Roof RX reps to come out to inspect and provide an estimate, max AHS will cover is $1000 per occurrence and rest I have to pay out of pocket. Per Roof RX policy we are only limited to work with their contractors (this was not disclosed properly to me when we obtain AHS). Besides poor disclosure, Roof RX $2700 estimate was ridiculously high (way over fair-market). I assume so they can make up for $1000 coverage. I had another 3rd party Reputable licensed insured local Roofing company come out to provide a TRUE fair market estimate which was $1,100.00. Also the scope of the proposed work was more than Roof RX proposal! This is not fair business practice in my opinion!

When I closed, the broker's company gave me a contract for one year from American Home Shield, and that was in November of last year. However, I don’t like American Home Shield. They have the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. It's terrible. I had a refrigerator that started to go bad on December 9th. They immediately responded and sent a technician out to my house. The tech made a few adjustments but said he thought it was failing and should be replaced. He reported it to AHS. I tried to talk to American Home Shield, but I could barely understand the rep and she couldn't understand me. She was reading a script and it was a totally scripted answer. I asked to speak to a manager and I got, "He's on the phone," or "He's away."

American Home Shield felt that they should try to have the refrigerator fixed. That is their right and I don’t dispute that, but it was 12 to 15 days before the parts came in. The mechanics came and the appliance was completely dead by then. They said it had a leak, but no one fixed the leak. It couldn’t be fixed. At that point, it took a few days and American Home Shield gave me a choice of what I wanted, cash of about $1,000 or a replacement for an equivalent refrigerator. I said no to the cash and that I wanted an equivalent because $1,000 is not a good deal for a refrigerator. It normally costs around $1,700 and even with discount, it is $1,300 or $1,400.

I went with them and a refrigerator was finally delivered last Friday. However, as soon as they took it off the truck, the delivery company saw that it had been damaged on the top. And since then, I've been trying to get some help from American Home Shield, but it has been useless, even an attempt to talk to them. They put me on a wait and it always comes up that they have a lot of traffic. It's gonna be a 40-minute wait. I have not had a working refrigerator since around the 9th of December.

They made me a little paltry offer, "Well, why don’t I go out and buy a dorm-type refrigerator," and they would allow me 60 bucks for it, but I couldn't care less about the $60. I said, "If you're gonna do that, give me a certification that that's what you'll do." The guy hung up. He couldn't handle it. It has been terrible customer service. I've gotten terrific customer service from the freight company and they have really tried to help me. Even GE has tried to help me, but GE wanted to place a purchase order against American Home Shield as a replacement, but they can't do it against my name since American Home Shield placed the order.

When it comes to expediting something, when I went to American Home Shield, they told me, "They come from the freight company," which didn't make sense. American Home Shield owns the purchase order and they are the one who can expedite anything. I'm still waiting and the freight company is still trying to do their best to get me a refrigerator. But I need American Home Shield's cooperation to expedite the whole thing through GE. The freight company and GE tried to help me, but they can't do anything unless American Home Shield does something. I can't talk to anybody at AHS and they always have some excuse. I know whether they're reading a script or when they're talking to one of their purchasing people, it's just the clerk doing their job there. The initial thing was good. They had a technician out here within a day and it was a good response, but beyond that, it has gone downhill.

Our microwave oven was not heating and we submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. Their online site was very simple to use. I just had to say what the appliance was, and then people called me right away. That was good, although they could put in their site a quick “What seems to be the problem?” And I could say, “Not heating” just so they would know.

But other than that, I had a very pleasant interaction with the contractor who came out. He was trying all kinds of different things and he finally let us know that there was a part that wasn’t working. This is the second time on this microwave. He had been out before and had fixed it. On New Year’s Eve, we had people over for tamales, and the microwave was working all day. But all of a sudden, we tried to warm up and it wasn’t heating. An element was broken. I let AHS know and the contractor came out quickly. They tried to find the part needed but couldn’t find it. He said that if they can’t find the part, then they’ll replace the microwave. And then, I got an email saying, “Please choose one of these microwaves because we are gonna replace it." The microwave broke on December 31st, and I ordered the microwave on Sunday night. The selections offered were very good and comparable.

We have had to call AHS out several times. We called for a refrigerator, for the toilet that was leaking and a light that was not working over the sink, and that was an easy fix. The guy just said that the wires weren’t connecting, and he fixed it right away. We’ve been pleased with American Home Shield and everyone has been very pleasant.

The claims I've submitted with American Home Shield have always gone smooth and easy. The only thing that took time was the air conditioning. I live in Texas and everybody doesn’t wanna have air conditioner issues here. One night, I submitted a claim online for my dishwasher that wasn’t draining and then the next morning, All in One Appliance called us. It was quick. The contractor was awesome, personable, and informative. He was nothing like the people I get sometimes who judge and say, “You should never…” He explained some things and also gave some cool tips and little facts that we don’t know we should do. Everything has been perfect since the repair. All in all, American Home Shield has been a lifesaver on a couple of occasions so it's definitely something I'm glad I got. Having to actually pay for air conditioning or any of the other stuff that have gone wrong in my house would have been rough.

Since I am not American, I thought it was better and comfortable to file a claim over the phone. The pipeline was cracked on the outside of the house and I had the same faucet attached to the front of the house. My husband had a part that was attached to those and I can use the two hoses. The gentleman said that they were not covered but he fixed the water pipe and he was on time so, I’m satisfied. I also had a leaking faucet and I asked him to take a look at it. I did not request for that initially and he said he could not do it. The customer requested only two and once they get there, they are five. I understood what he explained to me and so, I don’t have any complaints.

He was not able to resolve my issue. American Home Shield is good and worth the money, but they don’t check the companies that they contract with. A lot of times, the companies are not reputable. I have a rental property and American Home Shield was recommended to me by my niece and in the last month, AHS has done four different things for me. There was a leak in the bathtub, a leaky faucet and leaky toilets. The last time, they sent people out who did a good job. They made an appointment and they were on time. They saw the tenant and fixed the job. My main problem though is communication. I have had plumbers and other service people who couldn't fix the job and they'd talk to the tenant but the tenant never talked to me, so I didn't get the information that I needed to know to get the job done right.

For example, one time, they went to do a job and it showed up online as being finished but the job wasn’t done at all. The problem was not within their jurisdiction, so they just didn’t do anything and didn’t tell me. I should be able to go online or else get a phone call from American Home Shield in that kind of situation. But other than that, AHS usually works well and I'd recommend them.

Everyone should have a warranty. If you own a home and if you have expensive equipment and appliances, it's very important for you to have a warranty. Every month, I pay about 60 bucks and let's say every year I end up paying $600. It's possible that I may not use the warranty for a year but next year, a $2,000 expense could suddenly pop up. Plumbing, for example, is a common expense and American Home Shield covers a lot of plumbing expenses, even the most basic ones like a flush handle. The warranty is a really cool tool to have.

I also had another warranty before switching to this one. And here, the great thing is that I pay $100 and a guy comes, fixes and does whatever needs to be done. I don't have to worry about anything else. That feature is really awesome. In my previous company, what used to happen is that a plumber would come and evaluate everything then based on the evaluation, he would call the home warranty company. He would spend hours outside on my driveway talking to the warranty people only to come back to me and say what is covered and what is not, and how much I would have to pay. It's a complicated business for a customer who have other things to do. With American Home Shield, I pay $100 every time and not worry about all those aspects of dealing. It's very simple and I like that.

I had a bad experience with the plumber that American Home Shield sent in one of the claims. It was also a local company but they came and damaged a lot of things in trying to make the repair. So I contacted my warranty company and they told me that in the future, they would not resend that contractor. That's how they sent A-1 Affordable Plumbing the next time and they were really good. Since the pipe was not draining, we were not able to use the kitchen sink and wash the plates for a few days but it was okay. Ralph came to fix the sink in our kitchen and he was amazing. If I have to submit another request in the future, I would always request him to come.

I had done that claim online and the website was really easy to use. But when I do it myself online, I don't see a choice to select a plumber. What I did last time was I submitted a request then I contacted the customer service and requested them to send A-1. But it would be nice if American Home Shield can change the website and have a dropdown with all the local service providers that they contract with. Then we can select one of them. That would be really good because as a customer, I don't want different plumbers to come every single time. I would prefer to have the same plumber. Still, the experience was very good.

But other than that, the contractors they send have been really professional and I have no issues with any of them.

I called American Home Shield over the phone but I had to go through the prompts which I don't like. I was also trying to explain to the lady something and then, she accidentally hung up on me. They should have a representative call me back. But they never did so I needed to call them back again and it's taking a long time to get in touch with somebody. Still, it was nice when the techs came out. They took the problem and told me they'd get back with me. Thereafter, they went online to order the part.

Everybody that has a house needs a warranty. It is valuable to have one. It's like having a warranty on a car. It's not an apartment, where they fix up everything. People call the warranty company about a problem and they'll come. If you got something that breaks down and you didn't have a lot of money, you can pay every month and get the service done through American Home Shield. They take care of the rest of your problems and the expenses.

However, when the company sends someone out to fix a product, they should have it in there what American Home Shield is gonna take care of versus what is gonna be out of pocket. You pay money to somebody, but you don't know how much AHS is gonna take care of. Also, the only thing I'm gonna get with the contract is what they charge me. I don't get a breakdown of what AHS is paying. If I'm paying $1,300 to a contractor and AHS is paying about 200, it might be cheaper for me to go and get their product myself and do it myself than have AHS take care of it.

They said the part that they need from my heater is obsolete now. They asked for the whole new unit, but I figured if you do your research, there may be a part out there somewhere. Nevertheless, people really need a warranty on their houses and if they're not satisfied with American Home Shield, they can look at somebody else who would provide the service that they need.

The guy basically came, flipped the switch and left. This thing was very easy and straightforward. I filed this claim over the phone and that was pretty smooth as well.

But I had a claim before this and I almost thought about canceling AHS because of it. One of the faucets in my house was broken and needed to be replaced. But the people who came over flat-out lied and tried to cheat me. They said that I would need to replace the whole tubing inside the walls to get a new faucet. They tried to make it seem like I would need to pay them $1,000 for the fix, that it wasn’t covered under the insurance and if not, they weren't gonna do it. I ended up fixing it myself for 50 bucks. AHS should be clearer in the beginning about what is covered and what is not. Every time there's actually something wrong, I feel like they're gonna tell me that it is not covered and that's not good. I'm anxious.

In Feb, 2018 I placed a call to AHS regarding my ice maker on my six yr old Whirlpool refrigerator. They dispatched a local company to fix it which they ended up replacing. Recently, water has been pooling at the bottom of my refrigerator. We moved the refrigerator and it looks as though the water line is pinched and now worn and may be the cause. I was on the phone with AHS for two days getting the runaround. I was told multiple times by a customer service rep that he needed to speak to his supervisor regarding a service re-call.

After two days I had to call Whirlpool who told me to call AHS since only they could waive the service call fee. I went round and round and round with AHS and Whirlpool that AHS can and needs to waive the service fee since the call pertains to the original problem. Then I finally got the number to the local company who told me again that AHS can and should waive the fee so they can come out and fix the problem. AHS refuses to waive it and is making me pay another service fee for the exact same problem I already paid for. Poor customer service. I’m so disappointed as I have been with AHS for three years and have referred neighbors and friends to them. I’m disheartened.

She has her monthly payments auto pay through her bank, but they asked if she wanted her service charged to the card they have on file or a different payment. She told them a different payment, and then proceeded to give the payment information. It's Tues and she went to check her bank acct and it was overdrawn due to them charging the payment on file rather than the one she had given them when making the service call.

She called customer service and they are telling her she set up the service call online and basically she was at fault, but I was present when she made the initial call. This has happened twice now! And when she asked to speak to a supervisor, there isn't one available to take her call! Unprofessional and no customer service! Again my mother calls everything in on the house phone and isn't tech savvy, and they're trying to turn it around on her. Unbelievable! I have six kids and I like to file claims when it’s late at night. Submitting a claim online with American Home Shield is more convenient for me than just sitting on the phone and worry about waiting. Except for one time when the system was down online, I had to call and wait for a while. It has always been a very easy process and I’ve never had issues with any claims with them. Recently, the hood vent on my stove wouldn’t come up out of the counter and AHS sent people to fix that.

Most of the contractors that they sent were very pleasant, quick and informative and I’m very happy with the repairs that they performed. It would just be like I hired someone myself and they never short-changed me on service. Early on, when we started with American Home Shield, we had one issue where the vendor insisted that we pay in cash but AHS was quick in resolving that and in finding somebody else for me at that time. I’ve had nothing but good service from AHS and it has always been a reasonable price. I tell people all the time to consider their service. In fact, I have about three people from my work who signed-up with American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the website was pretty great. I liked that. It was pretty simple and easy to use and I got an email really quickly to say they got it. That's better than having to call in. H&J came out on the 27th and I had to call them back. When the guy was here, he seemed like he took care of it and it worked well for the next couple of days. But then I was backed up on the same problem. Also, I had gone online already and I had paid the actual whatever thing that I paid so, I paid twice. But the guy was very professional and helpful. He seemed like he was definitely trying to get to the bottom of it. I didn’t have a problem with the technician or even calling and speaking with the operators at the time.

And the following day, he called me before he showed up. He was very professional and he did a fantastic job. The heater has been working now.

This is the first time I've ever had a warranty on my property. I've been in several homes and I've built them all new. So, I never inquired even referencing as far as getting the appliances repaired. When I purchased the second home, I was told that I was required to purchase. And, I was given a list of several different companies to look at. I spoke to some people that were dealing with the same Realtor and they told me about American Home Shield. And I was satisfied with what they've done.

We had a well taken care of. We submitted the claim to American Home Shield over the telephone and it was very easy. The ladies at intake were very nice. The gentleman who came out brought a team. He handled everything right away, inspected everything very quickly, and then he went about his business. He was incredible. I had no water, and his first concern was if I had drinking water and the ability elsewhere to use the toilet. He contacted American Home Shield to get approvals and he verified what kind of water issues I was having. Immediately, he got permission to start attacking my situation. He had to get the product, but he came back, pulled the well and replaced the unit.

American Home Shield, however, does not replace everything or exactly what you have. If you have the KitchenAid, you don’t get the KitchenAid with the stainless steel, but something similar. So it’s not truly apples to apples. We used to have a well sock. It used to be a thing and everybody got them, and I liked the extra filtration. But the well master does not like the well sock personally. He never puts them on. He said it's like putting a sock or extra filters over your HVAC and that it will inhibit the unit's function. The well sock hastens the wear on the pump itself. It makes the well pump run hotter and it takes away some of the longevity of it.

Although he put a very good well unit in there, it doesn't have the extra filtration of the sock. It was just a pity for me because we paid so much money to have it pulled and put a sock on, which was a silly thing. It’s a cloth that goes over the well so less filth gets into the pump. You would think that that would be better, but it’s very sad for me because I don’t like the taste of my water at all. My water hasn’t been the same. There is a taste to it where it used to be incredibly crisp. We used to tease we should bottle it to make money, but now that we don't have a well sock, one can taste the dirt in the water.

Still, I was very happy with the well folks themselves. He was extremely knowledgeable and very prompt. It was the weekend and it was a nightmare with everything going on, but the fella made sure he took his time. This is not our first year with American Home Shield. I have had very bad experiences in the past, but this was a very good experience. I’m way out in the country, so I was very thankful for the well people, and that American Home Shield found somebody who was very good.

I make my claims with American Home Shield over the phone even though I have to wait. I don’t really like the online thing. When we had had issues with our dryer and washer, I called it in and was on hold for only a few minutes. I've held for some 30 minutes on some occasions. It can be a very long wait if it's a busy time. For this claim, a technician came right before a holiday. I called the day before. I was his very last appointment and I was glad he was there. He was pleasant and didn’t act like he was in a hurry to get on vacation. He was very helpful and tried to be very thorough. He left the place neat and clean. He was one of the best ones I had come from American Home Shield.

Our dryer was overheating and the thermostat was not good. The technician took care of that just fine. As for the washer, he tightened up something on that. There was nothing major on that, but he checked it out and recommended that I use a product called Affresh which can help clean out the washer every so often. This experience was very good.

But I had one case where I had the refrigerator go out and it was the most miserable experience I had with American Home Shield. It was at a time when I had my father in the hospital and I had company staying here while we took care of him. I called American Home Shield about the time my father went in. They ordered parts but it was not coming in. My father was in the hospital for a month. When the refrigerator was finally fixed, he came home a couple of days after that. But during the time my refrigerator was out, I had to buy a small refrigerator to survive. I asked if the company could replace or give me some cost for that. Our appliances are getting fairly old and the main thing with American Home Shield is that they'll keep you going with parts as long they can.

But American Home Shield was open for me to set up a new policy. They had a short wait time, so we switched. The person who signed me up was very professional, helpful and very clear. Then, we had a specialist from Consolidated Mechanical out to our home on Christmas Eve which was awesome. He turned up when he said he would. He was super responsive and professional. He was able to identify that the batteries were gone in our thermostat. It turned out to be very simple and straightforward. I also had concerns if it had to be anything other than that, as to whether or not he was the right person to fix it. He didn’t seem to have a huge grasp or a desire to dig a little deeper, but thankfully, we did not need him to. So far, we've had a good experience with American Home Shield.

Ok, so we had American Home Shield for a while and we decided for our budget that is wasn't worth the money. When we had to change our debit card because of a security breach, we decided that we would just let the warranty plan go. We were on the automatic draw where AHS would just electronically pull the money from our account each month, like other accounts also do. We notified other payees of our new number, but when it came to AHS we thought, well, when they try to pull the amount they will see that account is no good, and cancel their service, done deal. Well, not so. We did not know that they were continuing to try to draw from that old card and then when they didn't get the money counting it as an unpaid account.

Long story short, one day we get a notice from a collection company, that we have been turned in for owing AHS 3 months of service. Mind you. we have over a 800 credit score, so not paying our bills is not our style. We called AHS to sort it out, and were told that they continue to bill the card on file regardless and not their problem. We were also told that, yes they finally canceled us after 3 months and we owe the money. If that is the case I guess we will pay, but we were never even aware that this was the case until we got the collection notice. A phone call or a letter would have been nice, so this situation could have been avoided. Also the customer service rep on the phone was rude and basically said, "Sucks to be you." Horrible experience. Buyer beware!

Let's start with a they do not deserve any stars. Also ALL of their associates, including managers, are HORRIBLE! They DO NOT try to understand any of the issues, they were ALL RUDE, and think it is okay to wait at least 45 minutes to talk to someone. My dishwasher broke and it took me two days to get a hold of them. Since every time I called I had to wait at least 45 minutes to talk to someone, and the first two times I called I got disconnected. After talking to them they sent a company, that called to make an appointment. The technician that was supposed to come, never showed up! So we spent an entire day waiting and they simply never came. I called American Home Shield and all they told me was to call the company that was supposed to come here, I called them and only made an appointment for 3 days later.

The technician came and did not do anything! He simply looked at it and said he would have to order a piece. The piece was ordered and as soon as it got to my house I gave the company a call to schedule the next appointment, that had to be scheduled an entire week later. The same technician came and said it was the wrong piece. I had to call American Home Shield at least 2 times a day until they ordered all that was needed to fix the dishwasher. They said the parts needed would only get here 2 weeks later, and that the company would give me a call. The day before the parts were supposed to get here I called the company, to try and schedule an appointment already. They told me they still haven't sent one of the parts that was needed to fix my dishwasher, but it should be there by the next day, that was the deadline.

So I called AHS again, and after 4+ hours calling, waiting and being disconnected, I got to talk to someone who told me the company never told them about that one part. At that point I have already called probably a thousand times, and explained the entire situation to all the salespeople I talked to. So I asked to talk to a manager, who told me I had to keep waiting and it wasn't their fault. End of story is, it's been over a month, I had to go through a Christmas dinner at my house without my dishwasher. I had to wash all the dishes by hand, and I'm allergic to the detergents. My dishwasher still broken, and I'll probably have to wait another month to get it fixed, that is if they did not ordered the wrong parts again. THE WORST COMPANY IN THE USA! DON'T USE THEM!

My electric bill was $487.00, they sent a another tech out, the original tech that installed unit, wired a wire wrong and it fried the wire, which cause me to run off of heat strips for 2 weeks. I had to tell the tech that I am suppose to get a doghouse, and he acted like he was not aware of it, big holes or gaps on outside of house for rodents to get in after he came back out to install doghouse.

Did not put drain on unit for condensation, did not replace the breaker for unit that was requested for, did not put in digital thermostat that was on the work order. I had to call for them to be come back to install that as well. No inspector came when I was told a day that he would be here. Waited 2 weeks called them myself and the inspector came and was aggravated himself with the work that it failed. Wiring was jacked up to power disconnect, a belly in duckwork laying on floor coming out of unit. Dissatisfied with the work, I work for a fortune 500 company that has been around since 1800s, I recommended 38 people I work with to get AHS, I was fortunate enough to catch them before they contacted AHS to go with another company. Still things are not fixed, I will pay a local contractor to fix this myself.

    Original Review: Jan. 15, 2019

Discovered a water leak on the main line (my side of water meter) to my house. After cutting off water, went to call American Home Shield around 12:30 pm. After multiple attempts (waiting on line for over an hour), decided to open a service request from website. That process went very well and had a confirmation from their service provider within an hour. But, after calling the plumber to confirm schedule, was told he could not come out for 4 1/2 DAYS! That is RIDICULOUS - was it AHS' expectation that I could be without water for that long?

Tried again to call customer service and was told by automated voice prompt that AHS would call me back in 52 mins due to high call volumes. That call NEVER came! By this time, it was 4 pm on a Friday. I contacted a real plumbing company and they understood the severity of the situation and had someone out to my house (after hours at higher rates, but they got the job done!). I canceled the service request on the AHS website. I am completely annoyed at the very poor choice of service providers engaged by AHS followed by the complete failure of AHS customer support to be available to escalate the service request.

I have 11, ELEVEN... AHS Warranties. You would think that this would entitle me to a basic level of service... So if you are coming to AHS purchasing 1 warranty beware. And if you are like me, coming purchasing a home warranty thinking that having your Air Conditioner or Heater covered is something that is ordinary and expected, THINK AGAIN! I have 2 houses, with AHS warranties, in between Meridian and Hattiesburg, MS. Both with AC / Heater issues that started and were reported at the end of November 2018 or beginning of December 2018. This is a huge area. They (AHS) do not have an AC repair company in this area. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE???

Finally they (AHS), after my calling to ask what was going on, sent (around the 12th of Dec.) Bridges a company from a 769 area code (I did not even know MS had a 769 area). They replaced the thermostat at my rental which I reported a few days later did not fix the problem. And said they needed to research the issue at my other property doing nothing, but would return the next week. THEY HAVE NEVER RETURNED. I’ve called them several times (no one answered) and left several messages. And text the serviceman several times - but no return text.

Finally after the 1st of the year I called AHS and complained. Hours on the phone between being on hold and venting to a AHS rep, whose 1st language is not English. He called Bridges AC (he had a special cell #. Us reg folks don’t) and was told they had received my messages but were not inclined to return my calls... They had taken off the holidays. I told him I expected more. This was unacceptable that they did not have an AC / Heater company in this area. He said they would bring it to someone’s attention and that I would be hearing back from AHS. I told him if I didn’t I would be posting a review.

Here we are, over a week later. I have not heard from AHS... I know if I call I will be looking at another 2 hours of my life on the phone... for what? Nothing? No help like last time? My 2 houses are still without service going on the 2nd month. Instead, I’ve re-filed online for service and received texts that Bridges, who can’t be bothered to return a call, much less complete a service properly has been re-assigned to the task. Just maybe by posting this review, someone at AHS will go... What? We don’t have an AC repair company in the Laurel/Hattiesburg area? What? We let a customer wait not days or weeks but going on months for AC/Heater work? Is this possible?

What? A Call for service can result in hours on the phone? Do our customers deserve better? What? We have someone with 11 contracts and this how we treat her??? How is this possible? What? This Bridges company is the best we can do? To all consumers out there. I cannot more strongly advise that you personally assess your reason for purchasing a home warranty. Find out the names of the Service Companies in your area represented by that company. In this case, AHS doesn’t even have a company for AC repairs in my area. This would have influenced my decision to purchase their warranty.

After finding out the names of the their local repair companies do a BBB check on those companies... because AHS is only as good as the companies they have servicing you. If in fact they even have a company that can service you. If like Bridges (which isn’t even in the area... and their tech made it clear he was doing me a favor) they are not answering their phones, returning messages, or doing poor work that requires a return visit, this may influence which warranty company you choose.

Our septic system was backing up, so the pump went out. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and didn't hear anything, so then I called. But, everything went fine. After that, it took a couple of days for the contractor to get in contact with me because he was really backed up. We had a lot of rain and when we get rain, it seems to cause us problems with the septic systems. The contractor was wonderful and very professional, though. We liked him. He notified us of everything that he was doing. Also, the work was completed timely and the part that was broken was all taken care of.

I had two things going on at the same time, which I failed claims for with AHS, and it was with the garage door opener and the central heating unit. The garage door opener was pretty simple. The spring broke and the contractor came out the same day and had the part. Whenever I reported it, they came out the very next day, fixed it immediately and had the parts on hand. They were real nice. But as far as the central heat it was a little more difficult.

The coil was leaking and they didn’t have the coil. I didn’t know to call them, so I called another air conditioner guy. I had to pay $300 some out of pocket, and they told me that I had to get Freon put in it. Someone told me that I was supposed to call the home warranty company and I haven't used it for that before, so I didn’t know. The coil started leaking again, so I called again. But the contractor AHS sent said they couldn't repair the coil. They had done the in-house unit but they were not really familiar with the air conditioner part. The guy didn’t seem all that experienced. The first guy did. But the second guy sent out wasn’t as familiar because he hadn’t been out before. He didn’t know where all the stuff was so he had to get familiarized with it.

The heating unit seems to be working okay now. But I'll find out when I get my first bill. I'm having to set my settings on higher than before though, which is weird. Before when I had my settings like on 71 or 72, it would heat the whole house normal. And now, I'm having to set everything like on 73 and 74 which I thought was a little odd. I asked the air conditioner guy to wear booties and then he kept going in and out with the booties on, so it kind of defeated the purchase. But the other guys, they were very professional. They wore their booties and you know you don’t want people trekking up your hardwood floors. They were really nice. I like American Home Shield. I would recommend them over the other companies.

Then the day of the appointment, he texted me 45 minutes before, and then he showed up. He came in, he looked at it, he did whatever he does. And then went back out to the car, called American Home Shield, and then submitted the report but it ended up not being covered what was wrong with it. This is my second time using AHS. The first time I used them, I had a leaking pipe underneath the house, and then the contractor they sent me couldn’t come for four days, so I called AHS and they got somebody out there the next morning. We've had American Home Shield for about three years and it has definitely saved us a lot of money. I’d recommend it to anyone. I called them when my refrigerator went out, and they called the contractor out, and then he determined that our refrigerator had gone out. And so, he told American Home Shield and then they let me know that it was gonna be replaced. And it was replaced a week later.

The AHS representatives have been very helpful. I’ve had very good experiences. When we had to have our HVAC replaced, it was not so good because it was in the middle of summer and it took the person almost two weeks. We had 100 plus degree weather. It took him almost two weeks to complete the job. And they claimed that they had completed the job. And American Home Shield didn't check with us on that, and so we were sitting here. We had to go and buy window units to put in our home to keep from having heatstroke. It was so hot. Other than that, the very first contractor that came out with our HVAC was very helpful. But American Home Shield required a second opinion. He came out, he gave the second opinion, and he took two weeks and wasn’t honest about anything.

However, they don’t sell the replacements anymore so I had to pay a little bit to get a replacement unit. I picked the model of the dishwasher and then it got delivered by one company and then installed by another one. I had to wait for the dishwasher to get delivered first, but the techs were out within a day or so. After the replacement, everything is good. Having a warranty is valuable since the house is 20 years old, and I’m on a well system. Appliances are sometimes older, and sometimes, you just need someone to come out and do a quick fix. Like for the dishwasher, it was completely replaced.

When November came in and it got cold, I tried to get my heat serviced. It started working but then it quit. American Home Shield sent Total Air Care out and they have been out to my house eight times. They just left my house again and they said a board has gone out on my unit. It’s frustrating. If they're gonna warranty an appliance and after the third visit, they don’t get it right, they should quit doing the warranty thing.

I have not had any heat from November to December. This is the middle of January now and I still don’t have heat. I was pissed. The weather down here is usually pretty warm all the way up until October. But now, we have been getting some rain and ice at the end of this week and I hear it's gonna get cold. But as a result of the repair, we had a slight issue with a valve in the water heater, which caused a pressure therein. The contractor came back though and he fixed both of those and everything worked out fine. There was also a little delay on the contractor getting here, but that was a miscommunication between their office and the actual technician that came out to the house. Another thing is that we were being billed for a service fee, which has already been resolved, and every time I called to put in a service ticket, it showed the outstanding $100 fee within my account. But it was replaced and I only paid the $80.

Also, when I had to have my garage door spring replaced, AHS charged me even though it wasn't covered. But it was affordable, it was less than 300. And since I knew they were gonna do that, I told the guy that I needed a new remote, so he gave me a new remote. There was a large rattle and smoke coming out of the top of the AC unit. My fiancée called it in to American Home Shield and the contractor that they sent explained what was going on and what they needed to do. They had to replace a part but they didn't have it so they got it and came back. They fixed it, explained it, recommended something and then took off. They were prompt and did a great job.

American Home Shield was with the house when I bought it so I just kept AHS because I’ve had it before in Texas. I had company during Christmas. We were taking showers and my daughter-in-law went in there and said I ran out of hot water. I called American Home Shield and told them I needed somebody to check the hot water tank. It was great with their rep on the phone and they sent somebody out. The tech told me what was happening and he replaced a huge long tube that was inside the hot water tank. But it seemed like my hot water wasn’t staying as long as usually when I’m taking a shower. It's a little odd. Other than that, American Home Shield is great for somebody that owns a home and is, maybe, a single female.

My problem with the icemaker has been going on for almost two months now. The people that American Home Shield had sent out tried to diagnose several different issues and replace parts but it’s still not resolved. I also have another open issue for my master bedroom Jacuzzi bathtub, which is leaking from the motor. I’m trying to get that motor replaced. That one has been over two months now. Every time I talk to somebody, and they say that it’s not covered, I tell them they need to reread the contract and they ended up coming to a conclusion that I am right and it is covered. And then when I have to call back again and get somebody else, they’re singing the same song and dance with it not being covered. I told them that if they were to check on the notes, I already spoke to somebody two days before who educated themselves and found out that it is covered.

It’s ridiculous that I pay for a service and it becomes like pulling teeth to get them to uphold their end of the bargain and repair the things that I have paid to have insured. The contractors also don’t like dealing with the homeowners’ warranty companies because the homeowner warranty companies mess around with them as well. They don’t wanna commit themselves to doing much work because they’re worried that the home warranty company is not gonna pay them what they should be paid. And so, I’m not extremely pleased with the service that I get from paying for a home warranty.

I’m very pleased with American Home Shield and they are easy to work with. Information is provided regularly whether I receive it by calls, e-mails, and in paper format and literature. I also haven't had any problem in submitting claims. The last time I used them, I went to the website and it was very easy. Using the website takes a little bit longer ‘cause I have to go through the menu but the experience is the same as when I call. Our heater was not blowing hot air and A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was sent out. I find them very proficient. I had a dryer issue before that and the contractor was also very proficient. We've had American Home Shield on our house for 14 years now and I haven’t had bad experience with any of the contractors that I’ve used through the years with them. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The water heater wasn’t heating and the water would only be very lukewarm. I called American Home Shield and the customer service person took my information and told me that the contractor would contact me within 48 hours and they did. The plumber was a little late to the appointment but they called, so that was okay. The plumber wasn’t really sure what to do with it, so he drained it and then, we let it refill back up. There was a box on it to set it to vacation mode and he changed that so that it wasn’t in that vacation mode anymore. That made the water heater kick back in.

AHS is a good program if you end up needing it. They were responsive. It didn’t really save us any money though. There wasn’t anything wrong with our equipment, so we didn’t gain anything by having the warranty in this scenario. But I imagine if there would have been a problem with our water heater that would require parts, the warranty would have saved us. If I have a house that a lot of things could go wrong, then it’s worth it. But I’m not a big supporter of home warranties. I still ended up paying $75 for somebody to come out, so it wasn’t a great thing for me.

The bottom of the water heater rotted out and we needed a new one. I’d rather call American Home Shield when I submit a claim with them, but even though I call, I don’t talk to anybody. The issue with the water heater was an emergency. All the water was leaking into our garage. And all AHS did was like an automated service, and it asked what the problem was, and then they reported it to Central Valley Plumbing. But that still didn’t get anybody out here right away. AHS should have a setup where I could speak with somebody and not go through the automated system if it’s an emergency and the issue needs to be looked at right away. That happened to be on a Saturday right before Christmas. But I was lucky because this is a small town, and the guy that owns Central Valley Plumbing is my neighbor’s brother. So, I called my neighbor, and he called his brother who then came right out.

Also, when I had a pipe leaking in our kitchen, the contractor didn’t do the whole job. AHS sent a guy out to do the drywall, and then he got done. I asked him, "Aren't you gonna paint it?” And he said that they don’t do that. So, I had to drive an hour to a Home Depot, buy some paint and then drive back home. I ended up spending 60 bucks out of my pocket just to paint a small 12-inch square drywall.

I loved navigating through their website especially since it was Christmas Eve and I knew I wasn't gonna get a person for a couple of days. It was Tuesday when it went out and I was contacted on late Wednesday afternoon. They had 5 Star Air Quality out before noon on Friday. The contractor was great. First, he opened up the water heater and asked us some questions about what we were noticing. Then, he took it apart, took the bottom mechanism out, looked at some parts, tested some things and determined that it was the thermocouple that needed to be changed. So, he changed that and it started working. He had to go get a part but the work time was in less than an hour. Since then, the water heater has been working perfectly.

I have a leaking gas cook range - American Home Shield has sent 2 contractors out to fix the problem. Both of the contractors did not return to fix the issue. I just got notified a 3rd contractor will be coming out. This means I have had to take 3 mornings off work to meet them. I have tried to talk to customer service - after waiting over one hour on 2 occasions the customer service folks were disconnected as soon as I explained the issue. (They may have just hung up!) The last contractor to visit me turned off the gas to my stove and now I can't even cook dinner! I am now waiting on the line to repeat my issue yet again - it's been 20 minutes so far waiting to speak to a representative... Bad, bad, bad, service.

HVAC no heat since 1/10 and counting - I have this home warranty to help with large costs when things go wrong. We received yet another astonishing electric bill. We keep our thermostat on 67 degrees in the winter, and only run it when necessary. Our electric company ran some diagnostic tests and found out it's costing us roughly 50$ a DAY to run our heat. (Do the math 50 x 31 days in this billing period.) So I shut off the heat (Thursday at noon) and scheduled for a contractor to come out. They took our 100$ fee, and we had not heard anything from the contractor.

He first took the job Friday and said he would be here Monday; then our home warranty company called and cancelled the appointment (Saturday), so I had to call and call until they remade the appointment. He finally called me a few minutes ago and said "there is no point in me coming out, the HVAC is old, should have replaced it 8 years ago." (We bought the house 2 years ago.) I had to beg him. He said " the company won't replace it, and I can't fix it, it's old; but I guess I'll come out." My contract specifically said if it is malfunctioning and can not be fixed it is to be replaced. WHAT DO I DO? I can't afford 50$ a day, how does that not concern anyone? We haven't had heat since Thursday because I can't afford it.

AHS arranged to have service personnel the next day, which was better than I expected based on some of the reviews I’ve seen. When that contractor came out, they needed to order a part. The part came in less than a week, which I was okay with. Since the heater got repaired, everything has been fine. The service person was pleasant, efficient, effective and timely. I filed a claim with American Home Shield because I had a plumbing issue. It was a stoppage problem and it was a big inconvenience. We couldn’t do laundry. Do Right Plumbing came out and they were very nice and professional. Now, we're able to flush, bathe and drain the shower without any issues. But now, my garage door opener is not working. I went online to file a claim but there weren't any options for a garage door opener. There is not even a spot that says “other” that you can check and explain at the bottom. I called but nobody was answering the phone either. I was on hold for 38 minutes. I guess if you would do it online then it works. But if you have to talk to somebody, you’re out of luck. I don’t know if they’re not using a calling center anymore but I’m thinking about going online and putting down a wiring problem and see who calls me.

I had a claim involving a water heater, which a representative came out for, and they seemed like they knew what they were doing. They went up in the attic, looked at the unit, found the problem, fixed it and were gone. Everything seems to be fine now. But I had another experience and it was pretty piss-poor. During February, when it was cold even in the South, I had a central air unit go out. There wasn't anything wrong with the unit. They just needed to put a new condenser in it but that worked for about 15 seconds. A little girl who must have been about 13 years old had handled that for American Home Shield and I never could get her back on the phone. Finally, I left a message and got a supervisor who said they were going to put a letter in her file because that was not good service. But I never got the unit fixed. I dropped the coverage in that property after that.

Before I got my AHS warranty, my washing machine broke so I got a new one. I decided to get a warranty on everything. The next thing I knew, winter came along and our heater went out. So, I called American Home Shield. They notified Xcalibur HVAC and their tech came to fix the problem. However, there was a part that was needed. He left and ordered it which got my husband who had a stroke confused. My husband didn't understand him and wasn't aware that the guy was coming back. Thereafter, I spoke to the tech and he told me that he ordered the part. When the part came, he came in and he fixed the problem. Though I wasn't there, I spoke with him on the phone and he explained everything. Since then, the heater has been working. Overall, it was a great experience with American Home Shield.

I always submit my claims to American Home Shield online since it’s very simple and easy to use. The technicians that AHS send look professional but most of the time, they don’t go too deep in the problem. They try to fix it quickly and usually, the problem comes back again and again and that is a concern. The icemaker of the freezer had an issue recently and the technician scheduled the appointment, came in and fixed the icemaker. However, that was the first time AHS took more time to send the technician. Usually, the company would call in 24 hours but that time, during the holidays, it took three days.

Here in Houston, the temperature is 100 degrees and I have kids at home. If the AC is broken in the middle of summer, there's no option to ask for an emergency situation when they can send somebody in hours. So, I always need to wait for at least a couple of days. Imagine how we can survive in the house with 100 degrees outside and no AC. This can also happen during winter, when it’s below zero and there is no heater.

We've had American Home Shield for about four years now and had good experience until this time. We submitted a claim over the phone due to an electrical issue, but they denied the claim -- just because we had to do a temporary fix to get the refrigerator going. They were great on the phone and the reps were courteous but I am not impressed with AHS for saying that the problem was caused by something that our kitchen renovation company did. They're just assuming that and they can't say that without proof. The whole circuit went down and one electrician came out who determined that the problem was in the wall. However, they did not fix it.

They were just overworked or they didn’t have enough workers. They said that they're putting extra people on but the wait time is ridiculous, sometimes an hour, sometimes longer than an hour. Other than that, the interaction I've had with the contractors have been good. They were professional.

However, we’ve never had a warranty before we bought a house, and it was our fault that we forgot that we have American Home Shield. After that, then I had a conversation with him about other things related to the pool and he was very helpful as far as giving me information, and I was extremely pleased with him.

I have been with American Home Shield since I bought the house and any time I've had any problems, they’ve always been there and helped and taken care of any issues that I've had. So we called the next day, which was New Year’s Eve, and we thought the contractor wasn't gonna come out. But they did. The other guy did the same thing. He fixed it and cleaned out a filter. He revised and looked at everything, and said it was ready to go. It worked for a little bit but then it shut down again. I haven't even had a shower in four days. The water heater keeps triggering off and it leaks a lot of water. But the contractor has been really good by coming out and figuring out because the water was leaking and seeping through the bottom. Luckily, the water heater is outside. The home warranty is really good. I've even recommended it to my sister.

What a horrible experience. I truly believe American Home Shield goes out of their way to deny claims and not respond to their customers. A long story, but here we go: Since 1996, we've owned our home in Delaware. We've had our oil heater serviced yearly by a local company we trust. In fact, just this past December we had the heater serviced. (We have all documentation for this.) Just this past August, we moved to Philadelphia to be closer with our son and his baby. We rented out the home and decided to purchase American Home Shield's (AHS) 3x3 combo plan. On January 8th, our tenants told us the heater wasn't working. We submitted an online claim and were told the local Delaware company, Family Heating and Cooling would come out. They did the next day.

Two days passed and despite us calling both Family Heating and Cooling we were not able to get a hold of anyone from the company. We also called AHS multiple times (with phone and chat waits of more than an hour) and were told different information from different agents. One customer service rep from AHS said they were not able to get a hold of anyone from the local service provider. Another said they did and someone would come out the next day.

Another day passed without heat in our home, and so this afternoon, my husband spoke with Edmund via chat from American Home Shield. Edmund said he was finally able to get a hold of the service provider from Family Heating and Cooler who said the issue with the heater was due to improper maintenance. Edmund said we would have to pay $300 for the service provider to come back out and repair the unit. This is an outright lie. The unit has been meticulously maintained. My husband told Edmund we wanted another service provider to come out and that this was an emergency since it has now been 4 days without heat in the middle of winter. He said no one was available until Monday. I told him I wanted my plan canceled and I would get the work done through a trusted company.

DO NOT PURCHASE A WARRANTY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. This company does not work with honest contractors and will not respond quickly to serious emergencies with your home's equipment. I recommend putting the money you'd spend on a warranty in a savings account and just hiring your own contractors to do the work if/when something breaks. AMERICAN HOME SHIELD IS A SCAM!

My garbage disposal quit working. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was easy. Most of the time, I submit a claim online. The techs who came out were good, clean and they took care of business right away. I've had a hot water heater replaced. They did a good job there 'cause before I got the home warranty, I called Home Depot who were terrible in their pricing. They quoted a low price, but then the guy came out and said they'd have to do this and that, and then the price just went way up.

Having American Home Shield is a good deal. The price is good for a whole year for the warranty, and every time I've called, they’ve gotten my problem fixed. However, I had a problem with my garage door not opening. The people who came weren’t that great. First, they said it was the batteries, which I already tried. And then they went and got a new remote, and then they figured out it wasn’t the remote, it was the motherboard inside the opener. And the thing that I didn’t like was with the new garage door openers. I didn’t get to keep those. The tech took those with him and I thought that was kind of silly. But that was the only issue that I had with American Home Shield and other than that, it has been really nice.

He was able to resolve it in one visit and the disposal has been working good since the repair. However, I filed a complaint as I overpaid because they kept charging my card but I kept pressing back and forth. So, I called them since they have not refunded my money and since I still had the thing, I could not put a claim until I pay the past due balance. I had no choice but to repay the money when it was their mistake. I returned the money so I can put up a claim.

It has been going on since December and they told me it was gonna take about three to seven business days for them to resolve with the billing department. But they didn’t ‘because I paid $100 two days ago and then I saw they charged me again the $49 which they shouldn’t because they charged my card three times last month. I tried reaching out to them but they do not pick up their phone calls. Their customer service is bad and we are better off doing things online. It takes me like an hour to get someone and I’ll be holding sometimes and nobody comes on the phone. But whenever I get somebody, they try to resolve it.

I submitted a claim to AHS for my air conditioner. The issue I had was when I called there, it was a long wait. So I did the online thing. I told them I just needed someone to come out for the air conditioner. And they gave me the person, and I was like, "No, let me call and talk to someone," because when I called, I couldn't get a hold of who they told me that was gonna service my house. And it was already 30 degrees outside. So my house was cold, and it was supposed to stay that temperature overnight.

So then, I called right back less than 30 minutes. I talked to a lady who was very rude and would not help me. I asked if I could I talk to a supervisor so I could get this escalated because I needed someone to come out to my house that day. She just put me back in rotation instead of having me speak with a person. So then I called back again. I hung up and had to call right back again. I talked to the last lady who told me there was nothing they could do, I just had to wait until Tuesday. And I was like, "I'm supposed to freeze overnight because y'all can't send somebody out to come and fix my heater. And I'm paying y'all for a service." When I talked to the vendor, he said just call AHS back. And they said to have them escalate it, so they could come out that day. So when I tried to call AHS back and ask them to escalate it, they wouldn't. She said that was against their timeline. They couldn't escalate us, so we were supposed to just sit here and freeze.

I usually call AHS when I submit a claim, so I know who the vendor they're gonna use. I usually like them to send back the ones that had come out and done good service because there were a couple of their vendors that I didn't like. AHS should let me pick the vendor I want. Or if it's an emergency, they should have ways for you to say, "This is emergency. This needs to be done today," versus I have to wait until the next day or three days later.

My glass door wasn’t working so I went online to submit a claim with American Home Shield. The website is very easy and convenient to use. All Season came out and it was good. The guy came shortly after they gave me a call, and then they gave me a call when they were on their way. It seemed like he was very professional. He checked stuff, went and got the parts to fix the problem, and he did that simply. Everything has been well since they came out.

I had a water hammer effect in my house whenever the washing machine would run. Intermittently, it squirts water, stops, squirts, and stops. It’s supposed to do that, but it has caused quite a bit of hammering in my plumbing system and it worried me. I also had a leak at the hose connection at the wall and so I needed to have somebody fix that. I called AHS and reported that I needed a plumber. They got on it right away and sent a local contractor. The contractor was good-natured and efficient. I like the way he handled everything. He did a really fast and good job. He put in my water hammer arrestors that I hadn't been able to put in myself. Plus, he had to cut the wall out and replace the valve in the wall, which was not a repairable item. I really like him but I’m wondering if I would get the same contractor if I have a reoccurring situation.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield where Aurora Appliance Repair came out for my microwave. The unit was totally dead -- it wouldn't do anything and the light was not coming on. The website was easy. It took a couple of days for the contractor to come out and he was good. He told me afterwards what he did, but it didn’t take very long. it was fairly simple. Everything has been good since the repair. AHS is pretty good, and having it is valuable because it means I don’t have to worry about getting stuff fixed.

Our guest AC heater unit went out. It wasn't turning off and it was 80 degrees in the house even though we had it set to 69. We submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and it was easy. We put the claim in at night and the following morning, Service Contractors Plumbing was here before 10 or so. The guy who came out was really nice and he let us know what he was doing. The unit has been perfect since the repair. Now, the heater is working and we aren't cold anymore.

When we submit a claim to American Home Shield, we either call in or do it online. Their website is sufficient but it's not great. It would be better if we can type in more information about what the issue is, as well as make requests or comments so that the person coming out is fully prepared. While the contractors they sent out were able to complete the task, some have been a little dismissive, which is disheartening and it wastes time. The refrigerator repair person and another plumber were great. But the time before that, we had a plumber for a toilet, and they were dismissive and made us feel like we didn’t know what we were talking about. Heating has not been so great also. Other than that, there was water leaking in one of our appliances and AHS was able to get DMV Pro Tech within 48 hours.

My air conditioning didn't stop running in the summertime and my electric bill was $350 to $400 a month. I called American Home Shield and the reps I talked to were nasty. They were not nice people. They sent out All Valley Appliances, Heating and Air Conditioning Services and the guy that was here was really nice. He did an investigation but he didn't do anything. He said that I needed to buy a new unit but AHS didn't wanna replace it and said that they wouldn’t cover it.

I called American Home Shield informing them that my dryer was broken. It took more than five weeks for them to handle the issue. I waited five weeks without any dryer, so I needed to take action and decided to buy a new dryer. I sent the receipt to them to ask for reimbursement. The receipt was for $407 but I got an email that I will get $110 refund and I don't know why. I called and talked to somebody from support. But I didn't understand the explanation. It's a basic mathematical calculation. I buy something that cost $407 but AHS only reimbursed $110. The thing is, you pay insurance because you need help when you need help, not when it is okay for the company or for any others. In this particular situation, I am not satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield

I was using my dryer and it had worked the night before, and it already did two loads of laundry. When I went to put the third and very last load in, it just wouldn't turn on. I then went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. It was my first time ever submitting a claim with them and it was really convenient. A time was set and GE Appliances came out the next day. I was really surprised that it happened that quickly. It took the guy who came to our house 30 seconds to see that the issue was with the switch. He switched it out and the unit worked. He did a great job. I was gonna try to fix the problem by myself but I'm really glad I didn't. I would recommend American Home Shield. In fact, I've already told my best friend who is a single mom about them.

I put three service requests in with American Home Shield. Sure Temp came out for the heating and they were wonderful. The lady called within an hour of contacting AHS, and she had her husband out there the next day and he put in a new thermostat. He was very fast, professional and neat in putting the service on that end. When the thermostat wasn’t working, either the heat was on all the time or the air conditioning was on all the time. But the new thermostat regulates all of that, and everything is working fine now. Another contractor, however, didn’t contact me for a week and a half after New Year’s, but they're kind to come out on February 1st to look at the microwave.

The third service request was for a plumber, and I still don’t have anything. I still need a plumber and AHS is having a hard time getting one. I’m in New York, and it has to be until February 1st because then I’ll go to another part of Arizona. I told AHS when I made the appointment that I have a tank-less water heater, and the girl said they understood that. AHS contacted the plumber and I called them after New Year’s. But the plumber contacted AHS and told them he doesn’t work on tank-less water heaters, so they never even checked it. He cancelled with AHS, and AHS never let me know until I called AHS and the plumber.

AHS was supposed to verify their contractor before they contacted him to contact me. I even instructed them and told them they would have to make sure because not every plumber works on tank-less water heaters. AHS said that they would send another plumber, Riverside Plumbing out of Riverside, California. They’ve supposedly opened up a branch in Tempe and they were supposed to contact me about taking care of my problems with my tank-less water heater. Now, we’re waiting for the other plumber.

The control knobs that adjust the heat on my oven were worn out. When I set the temperature, sometimes it doesn't come off and it’s hard to adjust. The tech from Premiere Appliance that was sent fiddled with it and he said that the heat is coming. I told him that there were some smoke and heat at the fan and that it was not supposed to be that way. He said that it was manageable and that AHS would have to order me the adjusted knobs. I sent AHS an email but I haven’t heard from them. All I’m waiting for are the control knobs. It’s not something that a technician is needed to put it in. I can put it in but I cannot even get it. I’m at a point where I’m gonna eventually consider to buy my own knobs.

Also, I had an issue with the compressor on the air conditioner, especially the outside unit and the way AHS operates is that the tech will come out and I pay a $100 deductible, and then, they will look at it. But I was not happy. Those guys were spending about three days to come back. Finally, I told them that I was gonna replace the compressor and we came to some agreement where they gave me the value of the compressor but it wasn’t even the compressor that had the issue. I decided to replace the unit with 6,000 out of my pocket.

American Home Shield sent Beck Plumbing when there was a leak in my restroom. My older son was here when they came, and unfortunately, they didn’t do a very good job. It was leaking worse than what it was before. So I had to call them back, and they came back and did what they were supposed to, and it was fine. The toilet was loose ad they made it stable. They fixed that one really well. The only thing that I didn’t like was that they took the leaking, but they didn’t change the hose. They left the same hose that I’ve had. But America Home Shield is great, and I like it.

I recently filed an online claim for the gas furnace and navigating through the website was great. The contractor called the same day and came out the next day. They ran into a few snags though. They haven’t totally alienated the problem but they think they have it this time and they ordered some parts.

Our furnace wasn’t putting out any heat, then it would run, and then it would stop again after about a minute. Since I prefer talking to a human being, I submitted my claim over the phone and whoever I spoke to was good. In about 20 minutes, Nick Heating and Air Conditioning contacted me and then they came out after a couple of hours. The contractor was wonderful and he took care of the problem immediately. Everything was done just perfect. It turned out that there was a clogged hose and it was relief that was fixed because it was gonna be really cold that night. We also had a claim in the past that American Home Shield took a little bit longer to take care of than I would hope for, but it was done. While everybody and every call is different, it was a positive experience for me.

We had been gone right over Christmas then we called American Home Shield for a heating issue when we got back. I filed the claim online and somebody was here within 24 hours. It turned out that the igniter was bad and they fixed it on the spot. It was Piedmont Mechanical that came out and we request for them every time we have a heating or air issue because they're great. It is a no-brainer. They are great with our dogs and they're nice in our house. They're polite. They take their shoes off and they know what they're talking about.

We've found some really good contractors through American Home Shield. We've also found some really bad ones that we wouldn't use again and then we told them about that. We've been using American Home Shield for many years and all but one experience were really great. We even had an AC repair that saved us so much money. Plus with the house getting to be 21 years old, everything's starting to break. So the warranty is a good thing. You’re erasing money if you don't have it, unless your house and all your appliances are brand-new.

I had my washer fixed and there were some pros and cons about it. The pro is that they responded quickly when I initially filed the claim and they assigned somebody within 24 hours. The con however, the repairman took a week minimum to come over and diagnose the problem. We use the appliances at home all the time, so a week is too long. And when they came over, they said they had to order the part. It took 10 days for the part to arrive and they called me but they said it was the wrong part.

So, it took another week after that for them to get the right part to come over and fix it. That's about 20 days. And these are parts that are readily available. They could've said, "Look, it takes a week for the part to arrive. However, I can FedEx that next day and the guy can be over the next day, but it will be at a $5 or $15 surcharge." I suggest that they give the clients the option to pay that surcharge and get their stuff fixed in two days, instead of waiting 20 days for a repair. Other than that, American Home Shield is pretty great.

When our refrigerator wasn't cold on one side, I went online to submit a claim with American Home Shield. Their website is user-friendly and navigating through it is easy. The contractor called on the day that I submitted the claim and we made an appointment for them to come out. The contractor was nice, but we had to call them to come out three times. They had to fix the motherboard to figure out why one side of the ref wasn’t working. Then, when they got that done, the other side of the ref went out. It seemed like every time they touched the ref, something went wrong. Right now, we still have problems with it. They took out the ice maker but they didn't plug something back in there, so I still need to get them to come out since I don't know how to do any of that.

We can always contact AHS right away. Also, their contract is very readable and it's not a whole lot of stuff to read. It wasn't a long drawn-out contract. That's why I like them. It tells exactly what I ended up purchasing, what I am going to pay monthly, and what is covered. That was good information. Having a warranty for our property has been valuable since we've saved money by dealing with AHS. So far, they have covered everything that I’ve called for, so I would tell people to use them and to get them over other home warranty providers.

My washing machine was leaking quite a bit of water and American Home Shield sent out A&S Mechanical to take a look at it. They came out in October and then again in December but they never fixed the problem and they never told me what the problem was. They did not do what I expected them to do. I called AHS to say that I didn't want A&S Mechanical coming back anymore and I asked them to send someone else out. They then sent Sears who fixed the machine wheels and that helped everything flow very easily. Sears did a fantastic job. Now though, my washing machine door won't open and I was asking AHS if they could send Sears back out. They're a solid company and they listen to the responses and they react accordingly.
