The water dispenser was not working correctly and the online claim submission for it was super easy. I was also happy with how quickly American Home Shield was able to get back with me. The contractor who came out was awesome. He's a good and personable guy. He was friendly and above all, he was knowledgeable about what he was doing. He gave me some tips on preventing the issue from happening in the future, which I appreciate. Now, the water dispenser is 100% working fine. I'm glad I quit the previous home warranty I had since American Home Shield is better than them. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

My refrigerator was not making ice and because it wasn't really serious, A & L Appliance came out two weeks after I filed the claim with American Home Shield. Besides, when I had called, the gal was very efficient. There was water dripping out from underneath at that time and she asked if I could pull the refrigerator out and turn off that little tap behind it. She said that would top the leak until they could get here. But she also said told me to let her know if it does not work and they would call back if they could come on an emergency call. But we did exactly as she told us to and all was good. We were able to turn the tap off and wait for them to come.
A & L came out twice although the technician thought he had it the first time. There was just a pipe that wasn’t a good one so he replaced it. But I enjoyed working with him. He was a very nice person – very personable, attentive and friendly. He was efficient and knowledgeable too. Everything works fine now. The refrigerator is an older machine. We’re lucky it’s still working. So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been good as well.

We’ve had American Home Shield for 20 months now and the best part about it is the ease of being able to request stuff online, as opposed to waiting through a prompt system or a live agent. It's nice to talk to somebody but at the same time, if I just need to tell them that “My furnace is busted. Come by whenever you want to,” and then they automatically send the ticket out.
Recently, the oven wasn’t heating properly so I filed a claim for it online. The contractor called and asked when he could come out. I told him, "This afternoon." And they're like, "That'd be great. We have a guy in the area." They came out, called before he showed up, rang the doorbell, handed us his business card before he entered. My wife and I felt comfortable. We invited him in, showed him where the appliance was and he got to work. Then, while he was in the house, he tried to find the part, told us where the part was. He wrote a ticket and was out the door and told us that they’ll call us as soon as they get the part. His forecast would be 2 weeks before they get the part. Four days later, he called me back and said, "Hey, I'm in the area. Can I stop by and install the part?" And I said, "Yeah. Come on down." It took him 15mins to work on it and so far, the oven is working.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a heater and boiler. I submitted a report at 2:00 AM and I got a text message from the rep. The technician got in touch with me at about 9:00 AM. I explained to him that I got two kids at home, my heater was not working and it was a little cold. He said he'd try to come in there at 2:00. He came at around 12:00 daytime and he fixed everything right in half an hour’s time. The heater's performance has been awesome since then and I couldn’t believe it.

The kitchen faucet as well as the pipe underneath were both leaking. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and it was very easy. AHS contacted me after about five hours to let me know when a tech would be out and the rep was courteous. The service that the techs rendered was convenient and the techs did what they needed to do to take care of the issue. The tenants in that house haven't come back with any complaints.

Our in-sink garbage disposal went out and we couldn’t use that side of the sink very much because the drain would back up, so we had to be really careful. I called American Home Shield and they referred me to a company who never called me. I called American Home Shield back and they referred me to another company, Proline Plumbing, who called me right away. The repairman that came out was very professional and very nice. He did a good job and he did it quickly. Proline Plumbing is an excellent company. They made sure we knew that the plumber was coming early and they went out of their way for excellent customer service.

My heater’s capacitor went out, so it wasn't heating correctly. I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone and it was a long wait to talk to somebody. It was almost 40 minutes but it was easy and their rep was quick. AHS sent Carolina Air and Dustin was the name of the tech who came. I liked the way he talked. I liked his knowledge, how quick he was and how he explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. I've had American Home Shield for about nine years and I've never had a problem. I've always enjoyed it.

My water heater wasn't getting hot anymore and I had to press reset in order to refill it everyday. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent a repair company out. The guy came last Wednesday and he said the problem was with the heating element. He changed it and told me to wait an hour so I could refill and heat up. However, everyday since then, I still have to go out and press the reset button for the unit to refill and heat up again. I called American Home Shield and I wasn't pleased with what happened.
The company that came out diagnosed the situation without coming back out so American Home Shield called back and told me what they said that they needed to order another hot water heater. That was fine but then, they started telling me all these extra charges that I would have to pay for that wasn’t included such as a $50 fee, a $200 fee and extra parts. My water heater was replaced two years ago and I don’t remember having to pay anything out of pocket then, other than the service charge.
Also, my oven got damaged before due to lights. AHS didn’t cover that part and so I still have to buy a new stove. Then, when I had to get my AC fixed, I ended up having to pay the Freon fee, which was expensive, since they don't cover that. Even though I’m paying for the insurance, I still have to pay some high expenses out of pocket. So I'm not too happy with the way my experience with American Home Shield is working out. I'm dissatisfied and I'm thinking about looking at other options.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I was having problems with the dishwasher and the contractor that American Home Shield sent, A1 Accurate Appliance, came right away and I was very happy with them. With the oven though, it was Vector Appliance and I was not happy. The oven was not lighting well and its door was not shutting. The door needed a part to be replaced. Vector addressed the door situation by ordering new hinges to get it fixed, however, they did not address the lighting issue at all and we ended up purchasing a new appliance rather than the oven being repaired. But other than that, the American Home Shield's customer service has always been excellent. I’m very satisfied and I would recommend them.

My heat pump was freezing up. Every time I turn it around, the icon would come on, which would go to the heat strips. It bypassed the pump. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online. They sent out John from Myers. He is a good guy. He is a hard worker and an honest guy. He found the problem and fixed it. The only issue I have right now is when I turn the thermostat up to 2 degrees, the icon starts blinking. That means the heat strips are on. Besides that, the heat pump seems to be working okay. They changed the compressor and the readings are good. Right now, I'm happy with it and I really like the company.
But I wasn't happy with the ones who came out before. That was AJS. They didn't spend any time and just all at once, they tried to send me a 4,500 unit. I didn't appreciate that. They didn't try to fix the thing but Myers came out, troubleshot it and did a good job. Also, I had a little communication problem with AHS. They said they were gonna cancel AJS and then send out Myers. But then, I got a call from AJS and they said they were coming out. But then we rescheduled and Myers came back out so everything was fine. I'm thankful that the heat pump got repaired.
We also had a refrigerator. On the left side of the fridge, it would freeze everything, and on the right side, it was normal. The techs came out and replaced some circuit boards and it didn't solve the problem. They told me I had a choice to either go to select a refrigerator online or go to Lowe's and pick one out. So I went to Lowe's and they replaced the refrigerator. Everything worked good and I was really happy with that. Overall, American Home Shield has been good. I'm satisfied with them and I would recommend them to others. In fact, my son's gonna be picking American Home Shield, too.

I used American Home Shield this year and my experience was okay. I called for a plumbing issue as the tank on our commode started leaking and water was seeping from the tank. Their reps were nice and they told us that they’d get in touch with someone. They told us what to expect so it was pleasant. But, I was not happy that it took Greenway a few days to come out to my home. We called on a Saturday but they could not come to see us until that Wednesday. I understand it though. We could still use the commode and we had a towel around it so it wasn't that big emergency where we had to turn off the water. The contractor was prompt. When he came, he identified the problem and told us that he could fix it. He was very knowledgeable, excellent and did the job.

We had water backing up out of a drain in our basement. We called American Home Shield and someone came out and took a look. The contractor was very nice and the interaction was good. But I was a little concerned about how quickly American Home Shield got back to me. When I file a claim, usually, I would hear from them within 24-hours but it was two or three days before I got a call. It was on a Friday and I knew I probably wouldn't usually get service until Monday or Tuesday but it would be nice if someone had called on Friday and let me know when they're gonna call and set up a time to come out. It could be more of an immediate phone call from the plumber or from whoever that's coming out.

I’ve been very satisfied with American Home Shield. Our heat pump had a hole in one of the elements and it was losing Freon. It would get so low as well. My wife filed a claim online and American Home Shield called some folks locally. The assigned contractor was out quickly and they called to get everybody put together before they came. The guy took a look at the heat pump and ordered the part. It arrived in a week and he got everything set up and replaced the old part. He worked well and clean, so everything went well and smoothly. Also, we had some real old weather and we got the gears the garage door stripped out. American Home Shield sent out guys who were here in two days and it was all fixed. It was easy. I would tell friends to sign up for them. I should’ve done it when we bought the house to begin with.

We had problems with both of our showers. I called American Home Shield over the phone and submitted a claim. The interaction with the rep was good. My sister and I both go through this every month with American Home Shield. Other than that, the tech who came out last time was great. I had been with American Home Shield for several years and was pretty satisfied. No longer satisfied and horrible experience! I filed a claim on a microwave oven that stopped working and immediately filed a claim with AHS. They assured me that someone would be out to my house in a couple of days. They sent a technician from Sears in about three days, however, the tech looked at the brand of microwave and told me and AHS that he did not work on that brand of microwave and he left! Still no working microwave! Later AHS sent in a new request for a local tech to schedule an appointment to come to our house. We waited several days and no show.
I called AHS again and was told who was suppose to be coming to my house and they gave me the name and phone number of the tech that would be coming. I called the tech to set up the appointment and was told by the tech that the microwave job was too small and I should just go and buy me a new one. I explained to him that I had coverage through AHS and the microwave was suppose to be covered! I called AHS to tell them what he said and they refuse to hear it and kept calling the tech anyway and still no show.
Later, the tech called me and said he didn't know if he was covered to work on AHS product which by then I am aggravated and wanted to be assigned a new tech because of his bad attitude! AHS did not want to hear it and insisted that I would have to use him. No way was I allowing this tech in my home with this terrible attitude! I canceled the insurance with AHS and now they are claiming that I owe them a 100.00 for services that I did not get! Did I mention that between all of this time I called them a total of 10 times and of course put on hold for an hour each time? I have gone on to a new Warranty Service! Terrible Service from American Home Shield!
Hello, Lafalia. I apologize that you had so many issues with your most recent service request. I do see that you canceled and also see the past due service fee flagged on the account. A member of our Social Media team will contact you directly.

This is the worst warranty ever. I purchased a home in Arizona last April, almost 10 months ago. A month later the refrigerator was leaking water into the freezer. The refrigerator was still working so not an emergency. Thank goodness! I was "on hold" for 1.5 hours! The website would not allow me to submit the claim for some silly reason.
About 6 months later the same problem arose. This time the repair person complained that the plumber before him installed the part incorrectly. As he was taking out the "improper part" there was an electrical arc and 3-4 components in the refrigerator were fried. The company who American Home Shield (AHS) sent out did not fix "self-contained" parts. So the refrigerator is NOT working, there is a sick 2 year old in the home, without refrigeration for any milk or food.... food in the refrigerator is going to spoil. This was Thursday. The company AHS assigned did not have any availability until Monday. Had to go buy a small refrigerator to keep going. Runyan Appliance did come out on Monday and told us it would cost about $1,000 to repair the 16 year old refrigerator. BUT the parts were not available and would take about 2 weeks! Because the refrigerator was still "repairable" AHS won't replace it.
It has already been a week... so we will have been without a refrigerator for THREE WEEKS!! I do not find that acceptable. There has to be emergency repair people on call, AND there has to be some economically sound alternative rather than spending $1,000 on a refrigerator which has needed several other repairs already.

American Home Shield is contracting local repair shops to do the job. They needed to replace a stove exhaust fan (pretty simple, right?). Well, this is 9 month later, the job is not done and no follow up from either the AHS or the contractor. I keep calling them every 2 weeks and get the same answer - the part is backordered. This is total BS as we cannot cook on the stove as the smoke alarm keeps going off when we have a bit of steam coming out. Well, now the steam is coming out of my ears based on their awful service. What they need to do is to replace the whole damn fan instead of just one part if the inventory is a problem. That is why it is called "Insurance". But they are trying to save every penny. Buyer beware.
Good afternoon Fred,
Your frustration and concerns are understood regarding your most recent experience to have your stove exhaust fan repaired through American Home Shield. I would be glad to speak with you and get issues resolved.

I have been loyal to American Home Shield and paying them every month. Have got the best appliance plan. Our water heater got burst while we were sleeping, it was Sunday morning and AHS did not provide the technician. It has to wait for 24 hours. I had to run my own water restoration services before AHS could be connected after 30 hours. Technician has given a quote and AHS is asking 650$ to be able to make to quotes. Even though there may not be a modification needed but AHS wants me to pay. I have decided to cash out for the repair but customer service is giving me different prices whenever contacted. First time they gave 699$ but now they are saying it is 600 plus 99 cents. It is complete loss to us and AHS is not caring that we are without water for 4 days now.

Recently, I had a dishwasher that was bad and used a dashboard on the internet to submit a claim. It's convenient. I purchased my home in June of last year and it came with a home warranty from American Home Shield. There was a time when my furnace was making a lot of noise, and it didn't sound like it was running right. Submitting a claim to AHS was pretty easy. I called AHS to take a look at the furnace and went through the initial email that they sent me. It told me exactly what I needed to do to submit a claim. I had to put in like a credit card number for the deductible, and I could have it charged at the time that you request an appointment, or whenever the technician comes to see me. It was very efficient and simple.
I received a text from AHS saying the contractor is gonna be from A-1, and then it was followed by a text from the technician himself, just keeping me up-to-date with when he was going to be at the house. He came to the house right when they said they would. He's very polite and asked where everything was at. It was a nice experience. He found some sort of issue with the furnace but he said it was more expensive to replace that part than it was to actually get a new furnace. So, he put the recommendation in. Shortly after that, he said it was approved and he scheduled a time for a new furnace to be installed. If I were to purchase a home again in the future and the seller offered a warranty through American Home Shield, it would be a selling point for me. I was a little apprehensive at first as I am not familiar with the warranty. But with this first experience I've had, that apprehension was put at ease.

American Home Shield has totally ripped us off. We had a terrible experience with our pool system. We had the pool people come and they did a major fix. It should have been covered, but they didn’t do that. After that, we had a claim with the dishwasher. The dishwasher drawer just would flop down and not stay open or it would slam down. So they came, ordered the parts and they replaced them. They said, “Well, that’s just where it's gonna be.” So of course, we paid the $75 fee. Then I kept telling them about the dishwasher and they keep trying to come here. We moved to Hoover, Indiana. They would show up at our door and they knew we were in Indiana. So it went beyond the time limit and they wouldn’t do anything unless we would pay again. It was horrible from American Home Shield. So we called out a private individual, Mr. Appliance, that came and fixed it.
Recently, American Home Shield sent Bexar Appliance Repair to fix the icemaker on the refrigerator. They were wonderful. They were knowledgeable and helpful. They fixed the problem. We will continue to use them for our regular needs and they will be the ones we’ll call. We had a good experience with the fridge. But overall, we’ve had a bad experience with AHS.

We’ve had American Home Shield since we purchased the house in late June of last year. My experience has been very good and I’m very pleased with the service. I usually submit my claims online and it usually takes a contractor anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to contact me once I submit my claim. Doing it online gives me a hard copy, and I can see it in solid and I can write down and record everything.
We have a Samsung French Door refrigerator and there is a little plastic flap that blocks the area between the two doors when you close them to keep the refrigerator cold on the inside. The spring in the little flap suddenly broke. It wouldn’t flip back so when you close the door, the flap would get caught between the doors. We couldn’t get the doors closed and keep the coolant in the refrigerator. We called for the repairman to come out and look at it, and they called us and showed up on time. The tech said he couldn’t change the spring and he had to get a hold of the unit, so he ordered a new unit and put it in. Now, when we close our refrigerator door, the spring causes the flap to flip back into the correct position, and the door closes and it seals. It was a lot of work for a simple appliance, but everything was perfect.
AHS has always been very dependable and the people that have shown up have been very professional. They fix things very quickly, efficiently and easily. We intend to renew our subscription as long as the price doesn’t go up too much. It's nice to know that we are protected. If anything goes wrong, all I got to do is go to the computer, punch in some numbers and somebody comes.

American Home Shield sent AC Wizard for my heating issue and the two guys that came out were really great. They were friendly and they fixed everything. They also explained things, answered my questions and made sure that I understood them. When I contacted AHS for service, I didn’t know what the issue was. It just didn’t seem like my heat was working. It would run a while, kick off, but only for about a minute and then it was kicking back on. The guys took the broken thermostat. You could touch it and the temperature would shoot up so it really wasn’t measuring it very well. And so they changed out the thermostat to the one that was correct. I had another thermostat and they replaced it for me. They also explained the issue of the older plate and that the warranty doesn’t cover going up in the condo ceiling and tearing open stuff like that.
It was my first time to make a claim and it was very easy. I did it online and they were really prompt with the whole process and being able to get the repair guys out. There was a notification that said they received the claim and that they would be contacting me within 24 hours, and they did. I felt like I was informed through the whole process, which was good, and I didn’t feel like I was waiting around. AHS also gave me options as to the companies that they would send out, which was great, and I was provided with great service. I would recommend AHS.

Back then, it took a lot longer to get people out and forever trying to set up the claim on the phone. I was on the phone for hours on hold and transferring through those things. Now, the online process and turnaround time have been a lot better. The contractors they've sent have been fine as well.

There was an issue with the icemaker in our refrigerator where we couldn't get any ice made. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and it was easy to get the information through to them on what I needed. Then, the contractor that they sent kept me apprised on where he was that day and about approximately what time he would be here. When he got here, he knew what he was doing and got the icemaker fixed quickly. It seems to be working as it should now, so I was very satisfied. I’ve had American Home Shield for about 10 years now. I’ve had them in a prior home, at our home on Birdnest Drive and we had them too in the condo that we had. Also, I have recommended them to our friends.

All of the claims I have made to American Home Shield had been fine and I appreciate how quick the people come out. In all of the cases, the quality of work and professionalism of the technicians who were out had been outstanding. The doorbell man did a really nice job when our doorbell did not work consistently. He checked the doorbell inside, the doorbell outside and the transformer downsize. Then, he took everything apart and recommended a basic doorbell that was very reasonable without any bells and whistles. He was a one-man show and when he got to work, it was tough for him to keep up with his cellphone. But, he called me back every day and even though it was colder than hell here, it was snowing and that it was tough to get around, all of the communication had been excellent.
We also had a plumber who came in to check out the shower because the shower unit had been leaking and it got into the Sheetrock. He got behind it and determined that there was no longer a leak. The current shower head in there is fine but we have to replace some of the Sheetrock that’s right underneath the shower. Whenever I submit a claim, I just call American Home Shield and tell them that I have a problem. Everybody at their customer service has been great. We talk about whatever choices I might have and they encourage to call back again.

We had a leaky garbage disposal and Quandt Plumbing, the company that American Home Shield sent, was very prompt in response on a very nasty, cold day, and took care of the problem for us. That was an excellent experience. The only disappointment I had was when our furnace was failing back in November and we couldn't get a response in a very timely manner. It was that time of the year when temperatures were dropping and AHS had a lot of calls. They don’t have enough companies that were contracted to do work for them in the area of heating or cooling. They were just swamped. AHS should have a timely response when you wake up at your house and it's 56 degrees.
We eventually had to go out of network to get service and the service provided was outstanding. They were the same company that originally installed the furnace 20 years ago. There is a delay though in American Home Shield fulfilling their obligation to that company. I had followed up many times, trying to find out if the company got paid and I don't know if they did. When I log into American Home Shield, I can see the account as far as what claims have been opened and satisfied and which ones remain open. The last time I logged in, the claim from the furnace back in November was still open but I understand that AHS needed some paperwork from the furnace company.
Also, AHS should have the staffing to handle a lot of inbound calls when the weather goes bad. If you get on there and try to make a call to their 800 number, you can be on eternal hold and it's annoying when you're trying to make the claim during your business day. It’s time away from your duties. During the last process though, I found out that they have an option where I can schedule a callback, which worked really well. I can either submit the claim online which is not a big deal, especially if it's something not urgent. If it's something in need of immediate attention, then I like having that callback feature. Kudos to AHS for setting that up.
Michaels Electric, one of American Home Shield’s contractors, was absolutely outstanding. They resolved a problem with my quiet vent system. There were a couple of things that went wrong with it but the guys from Michaels Electric stayed with the problem and got it fixed. I was very impressed with their service and the speed of resolution. Anything from Michaels Corporation regardless of the industry has always been top professional and I have nothing bad to say about any of the contractors that AHS has employed. I just wished they had more heating and air conditioning people at the time we initially called for that problem back in November. Other than that, we're sticking with American Home Shield. I would recommend them to any homeowner because it has been that useful to us in the past. We've had this service in South Carolina and we were happy to sign up with them again in Wisconsin. The service is too valued.

I’ve always been very satisfied with American Home Shield. Everybody that I've dealt with from those that they have dispatched, even for plumbing or HVAC, has provided prompt service. They've been excellent. American Home Shield's website is very user-friendly too. I filed a claim online for a leaking toilet and on the same day, I got an email that Chesapeake Plumbing would contact me regarding the service. On the following day, I got a call from them to do the schedule and everything worked out okay afterwards. The technician showed me which part was the issue and he replaced it. Inside the water tank behind the toilet, there's a part that lifts to get the water down. Then there's a round part that clogs the hole at the bottom. But when it gets old, it curves around the outside and that was why the water leaked through. Water just kept running into the toilet. But the water has stopped running and now, I’m saving a lot on the water bill.

I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone when my heating unit wasn't working and the contractors came out twice. The first time, they put a new gas igniter in as they thought it was the problem. They tried it several times, fired it up and it worked. They thought they fixed it and everybody left. When my husband and I came home, there was no heat. They had to come out again, and that’s when they discovered that we needed a whole new heater. The heater was replaced and it took another week for them to get back, but they let us borrow two electric heaters. We had one in our bedroom, and the other one in our family room. It could not heat up the downstairs at all but we dealt with it. The people at AHS were really nice, and the people they sent to work were nice too.

I normally submit my claims with American Home Shield online. You can set up a time there and do everything. It would say which days a technician is available but the schedule is not an exact time. You can select either morning, mid-day or afternoon. It’s easy to submit a claim. But after you submit it, when you come back a few days later to check what time it was that you scheduled the service for, you can't pull any of that information. You can see that you’ve submitted the claim but you can’t see any of the details of it. That part was a little frustrating. Nonetheless, we've been happy with American Home Shield. Having a warranty is very valuable and although I've had them in the past, this is my first year to do American Home Shield and the coverage is much better. I haven't had any issues so far. It has covered everything that I’ve made a claim on and the repairs have been made.
American Home Shield has sent Sears for a few claims and Sears has been wonderful. I've been happy with their service. They don’t mind explaining what they are looking at and when they’ve finished troubleshooting, they would tell you what parts they have to order. The most recent claim was with our washing machine and the previous one was for a faulty ice maker in our refrigerator. We could not use the washing machine until it was repaired. But since Sears has made the repairs, we haven't had any problems. Those experiences were great.
Good morning Brent,

Our heater stopped working and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. The service lady that answered wasn’t very nice. It was my first time using AHS and my first time using a home insurance ever, so I was not familiar and she was not helpful. It was a Thursday and I explained to her that we wanted the heat to be checked on Friday so that we will at least know what was going on before the weekend.
I have little people and we were all sick with a bad cold, so I didn’t wanna live without heat. And she’s like, “Well, there’s nothing that can be done.” I understood the rule, but she didn’t even try. It was 48 hours before they would go to our house, and then they had two business days to solve the issue. She gave me the phone of the contractor and I hung up. The first contractor said they wouldn’t be able to come until Monday. I thanked them and then hung up. I called AHS again, and then a guy answered. He checked who was available that day. And that same day, they sent me someone. He was very good.
The contractor came, checked the heater and he said some new machine was needed. He explained that it was gonna take until Monday. But at least, he came and he was very nice. During the weekend, another lady from AHS who was very nice told me that I could buy a heater and they will reimburse it. So I bought a heater, and they said it was gonna take 30 business days to be reimbursed. I haven’t gotten reimbursed, but it doesn’t matter because the contractor came here on Monday. He was good as well and he fixed the heater and it is working perfectly since then. Although it took several phone calls, it worked out well. I am very pleased with AHS's service and the experience with them has been very very good.

In November 2018, our upstairs AC unit was no longer cooling. I submitted a claim to AHS and an HVAC technician was assigned promptly. I was charged a $75 service fee for the visit. The technician diagnosed an evaporator coil leak and recommended a replacement. However, he continued to discuss the costs and escalated the price of non-covered items to roughly $1500. $600 of this was the cost of the refrigerant ($80/lb, consistent with AHS documentation) and the rest was associated with "code compliance" issues he said had to be addressed. He proceeded to offer up the option of replacing the entire system, which he "quoted" to be about the same price as the repair (further research proved this to be an impossible price for this size unit).
AHS contacted us with the official estimates and I asked how long before I needed to make a decision. I was told to take my time and contact them whenever I was ready. As it was winter, the AC was a low priority. We evaluated the options (including getting quotes from other contractors to repair/replace the system) and contacted AHS again in January 2019. At that point, I was told that it had been longer than 60 days and so I needed to start the entire process over, including the $75 service fee. I scheduled the appointment. The new contractor (different from first) came to diagnose the system and, despite some discrepancies in the findings, diagnosed the same evaporator coil leak.
Without further discussion, the technician left and we were later contacted by AHS. The subsequent estimate was $2383 of non-covered costs ($80/lb refrigerant consistent with AHS documentation... although a different quantify of refrigerant in this estimate plus non-covered "code compliance" issues). This is on top of the covered repair. I had received a quote from an independent contractor at this stage and it was $2600 for the entire job to replace the coil without a need for any of the "code compliance" work.
We had decided to replace the system regardless (15 years old), so I requested a cash-in-lieu offer from American Home Shield per their contract language. The offer that was brought back was for $166 for the complete evaporator coil replacement (compared to $2600 estimate from independent contractor). This is small fraction of the cost even assuming a massive (50%+) discount for a negotiated rate with their contractors. The cost to AHS of the refrigerant alone would have been $90 per their own documentation (covering $10/lb, 9 lb). That means the cost of the coil replacement (material and labor) would be $76. I pressed the agent on the phone and was finally informed that the cost is really $366, but I was being deducted $210 for labor to date.
This labor to date was a 45 minute visit to diagnose the issue, for which I had already paid $75. Had I elected to continue with the coil replacement, this would have been 100% covered by AHS. I cannot find anything in the contract language identifying the need to pay this labor to date cost if you choose the cash-in-lieu option. The estimate for the repair did not include this cost in any way. When I pressed for an avenue to appeal that amount, I was told that there is nothing that can be done to change the offer. With warmer weather approaching here in Texas, I had to press on with the system replacement and was left with no choice but to accept that offer.
AHS is extremely dishonest in its practices. They engage in contracts with service providers to encourage the repair contractors to pass on false charges to the consumer in order to cover their losses on the "warranty" repair. These false charges are put forth to the consumer as required to continue coverage of the system (failure to complete "code compliance" work will void warranty). When asked for details of the code requirements with a reference to the code, I was simply given the list of work items again.
Between the two contractors that came out, the list of "code compliance" issues wasn't even the same. Then, when asked to pay out in lieu of the repair, they quote the nonsensical "contract" price as what they owe. Given the 2 service fees that I paid for the contractor visits (one just to tell me what I already knew), I net $16 toward my costs to replace the entire system out of pocket. I've never been a fan of home warranties, but this experience has proven to me how big of a scam they really are. Anything beyond a small appliance repair or piping plug, it isn't even worth it to call them.
Good morning Douglas,
Your frustration and concerns are understood regarding your most recent experience to have your air conditioner system repaired through American Home Shield. Updated on 07/01/2019: I have 2 accounts with AHS, one a rental property and the second my home. Earlier this year I reported a refrigerator repair at my rental unit. After two months of no resolution and numerous calls to AHS they still expected me to wait for another appliance repair company to service the appliance. At that time I filed a Consumer Affairs report against AHS. AHS's complaint department contacted me right away and resolved the issue within a matter of a week.
Now my home refrigerator stopped working and once again I am running into the same problems. A service technician has been to my house 3 times in a month and still cannot fix the appliance. I have been out of a refrigerator for 5 weeks and being told by AHS I must wait longer. UNACCEPTABLE!!!! AHS has VERY poor customer service. They have on numerous occasions hung up the phone on me when I have asked to speak to a supervisor. Anyone looking for a home warranty company needs to think twice before signing up with American Home Shield.
Original Review: I have been a long time customer of AHS Warranty and have not had a problem until my recent issue. My refrigerator stopped cooling. I placed the service request the 4th of the month, it's now the 5th of the following month and I still have no working refrigerator. Repair service has been out 3 times and keep replacing parts but to no avail. I have called both the warranty co and repair service co for 2 days and have gotten nowhere. I'm told they are still trying to find parts. I feel as a customer I am not being heard. It has been 3 hours today I have been on the phone and I continue to be disconnected every time I call AHS. I have complained and all I'm told they will report the issue. There appears to be no way to resolve any issues with this company. They do not value their customers and feel it's acceptable that the customer can live without a refrigerator for over a month with no resolution in sight.
Hello, Beth. I regret to learn that you have had a poor service experience. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to assist directly with resolution on your appliance work order.

Updated on 02/12/2019: So, the Ms. ** from AHS calls me and pretends to care. She says that she will review my situation and see how they can help to make it right. Then creates a hypothetical explanation that simply doesn't work. THEY LOST MY PART and now my stove is rendered inoperable. But, I am responsible for the costs to replace it. After "looking into it," Ms. ** comes back with the brilliant advice that I file suit against the repair company that was doing the work. Not the company that they recommended to repair the part and subsequently lost it. Nope not them, sue the repair company.
Again, even if this was the recourse, shouldn't they be the ones taking care of this. Isn't AHS supposed to make home ownership easier? Aren't they supposed to be the customer's advocate in taking care of situations like this? I guess not. We haven't had an operating stove since before Thanksgiving. AHS solution is for me to sue a service company that acted on their behalf and wait how ever long that process takes to get a new stove. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PEOPLE TAKING OWNERSHIP FOR THEIR ERRORS AND THEN DOING THE RIGHT THING TO FIX IT?!
Original Review: Our control board on our range went out the week of Thanksgiving. Called AHS and they sent someone right out. Great. Said it needed to be rebuilt. Great. Part comes in January. OK. Tech opens box and part isn't there. WHAT? Call service company and they tell me AHS closed the service call and should've called me to let me know they're going to replace it. OK. I call AHS. They tell me yes, replacement because they lost the part. Offered my $3,000 for my $10,000 stove. Nope. AHS Options tells me to call Customer Service dept and they can authorize more to replace it, since they LOST my part.
Mind you, I only asked them to go up to $5,000 to get me a new stove. Called today and spent over an hour on the phone. First told NO, $3,000 is the limit, then told maybe Options can help you. (Even though Options said Service could.) Ask me to hold and then hang up on me. SO DONE! This is absurd. How can they lose a part, and hold the customer accountable for their error? Contract or no, what happened to doing the right thing??

I pay American Home Shield the monthly fee and then I pay $75 when a person comes out. When submitting a claim, I call or go online and put in what I need to be looked at. This time, I called AHS for my furnace. I didn’t have any heat and it was freezing as hell. The contractor came and looked at the unit. It needed a part and they ordered it. Then they came the next week and put it in.
One time, my refrigerator wasn’t keeping cold, so a tech came and I asked him what was going on. He said it was done and that it had to be replaced, and the way he put it to me was that I had to come out of pocket and just buy another refrigerator. So that was what we did. But I was very upset because I thought that the appliance was gonna be fixed. Also, the guy that was sent had an attitude, and I could lean almost towards being prejudiced.
Then on my next claim, I was told that the sump pump needed to be fixed, but it would cost me $700 because they would replace the pump as it was not up to code. I pulled the contract out because I wanted to see about the sump pump. Then I realized after reading that they should have replaced the refrigerator, and they didn’t. The contract said that if they didn’t fix it, they were to replace it, but when I called to complain, the only thing that the AHS rep did was apologize. Now, when I go into my account online, they don’t even have it listed in there about the refrigerator. They have it listed like I had something done to my AC, which at the time, I didn’t. I was thinking about canceling AHS. To me, as long as the claim is something small, AHS will honor the warranty. But if it’s something bigger, they find ways to try to get out of it. I'm not satisfied with AHS and the warranty is not even worth it to me anymore.

We were told that it was the ignition nozzle which was burnt out and when the contractor came in, he said it was hot. So, he switched that out and then, it clicked on. He even replaced our thermostat because it was old and had Mercury. He did it free of charge. He had an extra one and he put in on there for us. It was a great interaction.
I was skeptical at first in getting a warranty but it’s super valuable. It made us feel a lot less stressed and it was an easy $75 deposit. When my 28-year-old microwave sparked and was not working, a guy came out and I was told that the microwave was not worth repairing. But when they called me, I was working so I didn't take the call. It took me three days of calling to finally get somebody to get to the next stage. I was on hold for a half hour on those three times which was not fun. I didn't have that kind of time available. Also, they didn't call me back a second time on follow-up. They just left me a message that they were going to replace it and for me to call. I went online to figure out how to do it and I sent them everything but I haven't had the chance to try to find out if I sent it right.
I had the option of purchasing a new microwave myself. I also told them to replace the stove too since we were also having a problem with it. I just couldn't be bothered trying to wait and see and spend the money for them to repair. If they thought the stove could be repaired, then it wasn't gonna match what I had. So I ended up replacing the stove at the same time on my own because I didn't wanna have somebody come back out. Right now, I would like to know where the status is on what I submitted. The process for getting reimbursed is hard. I faxed over what they told me to on the receipt and all the information. It said that if I don't receive my check in 10 to 14 days, I’d have to call back. I don't have the time to sit on the phone to call them back and I have not looked today yet to see if I've got any confirmation.
American Home Shield had been usually good in coming if it was a repair but my biggest problem was the replacement. And the other time, I ran into an issue when we had a problem with one of the toilets backing up. The plumber said that the policy is that they won't try and clear a pipe if there's a septic, unless the septic has been cleared of the problem. I have a septic coverage but under the septic wasn't covered so I had to hire somebody. I had to pay for the septic to be checked, which had only been cleaned to make sure it wasn't in the septic before they would come back out again. It took a lot of time. It was backing up and they charged me twice, but then credited me. Other than that, I've had AHS several times for different things and I haven't had any real issues with them.

American Home Shield reps have set up appointments very quickly every time things go out. Someone was able to come out on the same day and that was huge. I had a heating issue, for which I submitted a claim online, and then someone from the heating company called me within a couple of hours. The contractors that came out were very professional. If they were on the rug, they wore shoe covers, which was great, and the tech explained what he did. It was a very positive experience. And the heating has been working great since.
I've also had claims for my fridge and microwave and the AHS contractors came out, which was great. For the refrigerator, a company came out and fixed it but a month later, it broke again. So we had to do another claim and then a different company came out and did the microwave at the same time. It just took a little longer before the second company could come out. I wish they had just called me to set up an appointment instead of texting back and forth for two days. Other than that, everything with AHS has been quick, simple and satisfactory. I share with people that I’ve had a great experience and being a realtor, I’ve been sending AHS to my clients to use as well.

I waited 20 minutes before American Home Shield got somebody on the phone when I submitted a claim for my heater that stopped working. They wanted everything done online, like doing the appointments online as well, but by the time they get to it, a day has gone by. So I always call and once I got in, it is not usually too bad and a contractor would be out the very next day. However, this time, it did not happen. I do not know what companies they use and almost every time they come out, they tell me that they don’t have the part on their truck or they have to order it. There have been cases where it’s been a week or two. With me, I had a second refrigerator at one point because it took almost two weeks to get a part. Even the technician said they should’ve replaced the refrigerator because it was $700 in repairs.
On the other hand, when my microwave went out, they told me to go out and get a new microwave. It has been good and bad. Also, I do not like that AHS changed their policy. They used to replace a unit if it went out but now, they put a limit of $3,000 which does not do anything for a unit. Their service fee has gone way up as well. It used to be $50 but it is $80 now plus the monthly cost. But the contractor, Comfort First, came right out for my heater claim and the guy had the part on the truck. He replaced the motherboard on the air holder and it is working fine now.

My ice maker quit working and we go through a fair amount of ice in our house. I can submit a claim online but I usually call American Home Shield. The contractor that they sent knew a lot and he was good. However, he was not communicative. He had to order a part and when they called, he said it would take a week and he would call when it comes in. Then, they called and said that it should be in tomorrow and that they would call to set up an appointment date. Tomorrow came and Saturday, Monday and Tuesday but there was no call. We didn’t hear from them. We called them earlier to find out if the part came and it was true. I called back on Tuesday and told them that they need to call me. I gave them till Wednesday and if I don’t hear from them, I’m gonna call American Home Shield. I told them to communicate with me. If they couldn't come today, I could be patient but I need to know what the status was.
The technician called and even came early for the appointment. He was a good repair person but he needs to communicate a little bit better. He told me to keep an eye on the icemaker. He replaced one part and he said that often fixes it. There is another part that could potentially have to be replaced but they don't replace that until they find out if this fix worked. We're getting ice right now and the ice maker seems to be working so hopefully that will do the trick. I love having AHS. It's nice to know that I've got that deductible amount because I would probably grumble and live without an icemaker in the days gone by because I don't know what it'll cost to fix it. I have recommended them so I'm very satisfied with them. We've had a few claims throughout time and I've never had any problems with them.

If you're having any problems with your heater or AC, just give American Home Shield a call. We started having problems with our heater because it would turn off, and then it was during this really cold weather. I went online, and then I went to their webpage to submit a claim. American Home Shield then sent me an email saying that the contractor will call. The person they sent to the house was polite and was nice to work around his schedule. He told me that they were busy, but he could make it to my house as soon as possible.
The tech was at my house by Sunday and looked at my heater. He said that my heater was really old, and the part that was replaced shouldn't have been replaced because it will give problems in the future. That’s what happened because I had the heater checked in August. And then four months later, I have the same problem. The tech just put a new one in it and it's running great.

I had a plumbing issue with the water heater and submitted a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor that came out to do the work for me was very good. The technician was prompt in getting out here, brought out the water heater the next day, and installed it quickly. I had two water heaters linked together and one went out, so I could only partially fill my bathtub. But I can now fill my bathtub and that's a good thing. There was a stoppage with my main drain and it had feces and some stuff come out in my basement. I called American Home Shield and tried to explain to the rep what was going on. But she was busy reading her note and was not trying to hear what I had to say. She told me that the techs can't come out 'cause they already had somebody come out. So, I had to get in contact with my realtor who contacted someone above the AHS reps and they got someone out to my residence. The tech made sure that everything was taken care of. He kept me informed in everything, showed me everything that he was doing and he was very professional. But AHS customer service needs more work. It was an emergency and I had an ill son. I had to wait weeks but I hoped that they would have somebody out to my residence sooner. It was a learning experience. But even though I had to jump in loops, I did get the job done.

I had an issue with my washer and dryer. I called in a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out a guy from Fort Bend Appliance. I called on Tuesday to see about them coming Friday since I get off early on Fridays but the guy was in the area that Tuesday and he met me when I got off of work. I didn’t have to wait three days. He came in and got my washer and dryer taken care of. He was good.
My washer would not spin, so he lifted it up. He said there was something caught off in there from a quilt I had done that busted and all that fiber came out into it. He cleaned all of that really good and got it going back. He said it’s an older washer but it was still in pretty good condition. Since then, it has been doing its job. As for my dryer, I had to spin it three times for it to get hot. But he went in and cleaned up whatever that thing is in the back and said that it was in good condition. I needed to replace that too, but it would be fine with or without it. In fact, it’s cold sometimes in the garage and that heat won’t bother it until the summer. Then, we’ll get one of those things that go behind it. So, we’re good to go.
About a month ago, I also called them for some plumbing issue and they fixed that, too. So, I’m pretty good with Home Shield. They have been very helpful to me and I’ve recommended them to people. One time, I needed a locksmith but they don’t do that. Still, they gave me information to get a locksmith. I have AHS for about three years now. Initially, I got them when I went to Germany and a friend of mine told me that I should have American Home Shield. She said that they're gonna help me with my water heater, so when I got back in the States, I got the warranty. And it has been a plus for me. I try not to call in unless I really need the service. I’m not one of those people that abuse it.

The contractor American Home Shield sent to fix my water heater has been absolutely wonderful. He came out twice and I was charged for the first call. He came out once last week and adjusted the thermostat in the water heater, and that made a cool shower lukewarm. But the hot water in the master bathroom shower is still not hot enough. The tech came back out and said that the water heater is 10 years old and it only has one heating element in it where most have two. That was the best he could do. He also said that American Home Shield would refuse to replace the water heater because the water temp and all the other faucets in the house are okay. Considering I’m the one that pays for their service, it is frustrating. I really need to be able to take a hot shower and I’m probably gonna end up replacing the water heater myself. The coverage has been wonderful for other things though.

The tech came out and did the toilet within five minutes but he had to go out and buy the parts for the sink, but the store didn't have it. He had it in the office, so he told me to allow him back the next morning to fix the sink. But after 12:30, he was no show. I called the company and they said he was not gonna make it that day. I was very disappointed.
Today is Friday and I already have people coming to my house Saturday. I called and complained. I was begging the rep and said that I had company arriving here by noon tomorrow and I really need to have the sink fixed. She made a call somewhere, worked things out and sent somebody else. Another tech came because the first tech had taken another job. If you've taken up a job, then make sure somebody else is gonna take care of my job and finish up.

I told them they didn’t have to come out right away. So, they came within five days.
When the contractor arrived though, he said he had to come back because he was not equipped to do what he needed to do. So then he came back the next day and said that it was not wired properly originally. I told him that I doubted it because it has been happening for the last couple of years. He then said that it should not happen again, but, of course, it did happen again, so he came back. He replaced a valve when he was here previously and when he came back, he said he now has to replace another valve. He was gonna call me to set that up. Overall, though, American Home Shield is good.

I live in the Midwest and we were expecting horrible cold temps and I had no heat. So when our furnace went out, we submitted a claim online and because it was on a Saturday and we couldn't get anyone out here or even be contacted until Monday, we also left a message to have someone call us back. They called us back in 45 minutes and they found someone to come out and we had someone out there in a couple of hours that afternoon.
I don’t have an issue setting things up online, but usually, when you call a home warranty company, it's usually something happening right now in real time. It's not something that always has the option of waiting for 48 hours before they can get a vendor to contact you. It would make it so much more convenient, if there was some kind of a line or if you could actually speak with someone instead of getting the recording that says, "Your whole time will exceed 45 minutes." And in instances like ours, you don’t want to wait an hour or two, you need somebody now.
On the other hand, hey covered everything and we’re happy with our experience. The contractor AHS sent out was very nice. We had a part that went out and they couldn't get the part until Monday. Then when they tried to get the part, no one had it in town and they had to order it. So, we were without heat except for a couple of space heaters for five days before they ever got back out here. When they went to put the part in, something else had broken. Luckily for us, it was a part that they were able to get, so they went to get it, came back and we've been fine ever since.

AHS will rip you off and leave you hanging. See the other recent reviews! It's all TRUE and exactly what I'm going through! Stay away. Submitted service request 1/3/2019 for washer & dryer. Service tech has been out 3x. 2x time, dryer that was having issues, but still working now does not work at all. Back again today with more parts. Still couldn't fix it. Washer parts apparently never coming in. The repairman said it's not even worth it to fix it. It's basically rebuilding the entire washer and with his labor it's way over what the washer is even worth. I have called AHS at least 20 times. Hold times are ridiculously long. I've called Customer Service, Authorizations & Parts depts. I've only had 1 person who was helpful - Sylvester **. Other than that, I've been disconnected at least 5 times, with no call back (they have my acct up, so they have my number).
Transferred to inoperable numbers, or like right this moment, told that he would contact the Parts Dept for me and to hold. I've been waiting for 45 mins waiting for him to return. Apparently, that's not going to happen. He obviously didn't want to deal with me, so I've been abandoned. I've wasted time on the phone. I've taken time off for service calls and now spent $60 at a laundromat. I demanded my service fee back, was told they would only give me half, and now when I log in, it's showing the full service fee as past due! They do not care about you. Reps could care less because there isn't accountability. If you call back, you get a different person, so oh well. I made the mistake of paying the year up front. Now that they have my money, it is obviously screw you. No way to talk to a complaint dept. My next step is to file a complaint with the BBB and share on any social media platform I can.
Good afternoon Stacey,

Updated on 05/20/2019: I have had an issue for over 6 months with my heating unit. AHS sent a tech out, the first tech stated there was an issue w/ the compressor, it shorted out and that I needed a new unit. AHS stated they would not pay for the unit because it was not normal wear and tear. I insisted they send another tech out for another diagnostic, they second tech came out and basically said the same thing but that it was just an old system and it was basic wear and tear. AHS only approved this company to replace the compressor. This company told me that AHS does not pay for FREON and I would have to pay $1300 for the freon fill. I agreed because I wanted my unit to work.
Long story short, that was not the solution, they then came back and said that it was the condenser backed up and the entire unit needed to be replaced and they still wanted their $1300 for fixing something that does not work. I have reached out to several reps to try to just get the payout and have someone else come and fix it but I was told the payout was only $150. I am furious. I need someone to reach out to me ASAP.
Original Review: I was advised by my realtor to get AHS. They did not repair my heating unit, saying that it was not normal wear and tear and that there was a electrical issue that caused my compressor to go out. The first company made this observation but the second company gave me totally different information. Customer service was no help, barely can understand. AHS guarantees that someone will be out within 24 hours and I had to wait over 7 days for an answer. Oh by the way, they gave me an answer via Facebook messenger and said call customer service if I had any other questions.

Before they cut walls, I’d rather have someone who would really be able to address the issue. And then when they finally identified the issue, the fix was timely and everything went well.
The only challenge that I had was they didn’t wanna cover the claim initially. The plumber did great. American Home Shield got them out there timely, and I felt they had a reputable company that they sent. But they initially denied. I don’t know if it was all or portion of the claim because they said it was type modification because it was a different material type, but they’re no longer using the old type that was there. So, I had to go back to the plumber and then the plumber had to talk to them to get it resolved. And then they eventually said, “Okay, yes, we’ll cover it.” But it did take a bit of pushback, which I understand, so I had to deal with it back and forth. But it was all resolved in the end.

Other than that, it’s good to have American Home Shield and I don’t worry as much.

Every time I've used American Home Shield, it has always been a good experience for me. I had a hot water heater that wasn’t working properly and because I wasn't able to access my online account, I set up a claim over the phone. Within a couple of hours, I received a call from the contractor and we were able to set up an appointment for the next day. The gentleman who came to service the water heater was effective and efficient. He was able to identify the problem quickly and was in and out in about 25-30 minutes. The water heater has been working since and it's nice to have hot water again.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield when my kitchen sink backed up. The rep got the techs out here the same day and they came on time. They snaked the kitchen sink and they cleaned up after themselves. They also provided education in regards to how to keep it from happening. It was a good company and I would recommend AHS.

When we didn't have any heat and needed to make a claim to American Home Shield, all I did was make a phone call. The reps I worked with were helpful. It was the second time that we’ve had something done and since I called early, it was just an automated system but it was cut through. The people they sent out from Affordable Heating & Air were very helpful. I had no complaints. The first time that we had an issue, they were sent out at 10:30 at night and on a Sunday, they came out right away. They were able to fix the issue but something else happened so I called them again directly and the next thing I know, they were out of our door. They were very fast and effective. Since the repair of our appliance, everything is so much better. We’ve had some very cold spells so we’ve had to have the heat going high lately, and it works great.

American Home Shield came with the closing for the house. I have been with them for a year now, but the cost has gone up. The last time I bought a house was 20 years ago. So, 20 years ago, it cost $300 to get the warranty, and now it costs almost $700 to do it. Still, AHS has always been great for the air conditioning. When I submit a claim online, communication seems to be more consistent. Also, their reps have been nice when I work with them. While the technicians they have sent out have been great, AHS could work on their communication. We have very specific instructions to call my husband’s number but everybody kept calling my number. AHS is too expensive if you have to pay for it out of pocket but it's still great overall if their warranty is part of the closing process.

I didn’t use my heater throughout the year and last year, we had a mild winter. I tried to put my heater on and it wasn’t working at all. I logged into the internet and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they responded immediately. AHS said that the contractor would contact me within 24 hours and they were within the time limit. I got a call back from AAA setting up an appointment and we got it done.
When I bought the home back in '15, the contractor put an AC that was made for up north because it has an outside defroster and they bypassed some wiring. So, AAA came out and they rewired everything correctly the way it was supposed to be. They installed a new thermostat and I was very satisfied with their service. They explained everything step by step and they showed me the parts that got replaced. All brand new parts and they actually opened up the parts in front of me. I was surprised. It was A+ quality. I’ve been with American Home Shield for about three and a half years now and so far, the repairs have been excellent.
Thanks for sharing your feedback Felix. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

I live in a three-level townhouse and it would be super hot on the top level, but the bottom level would be cold. I called American Hold Shield and told them that I needed someone to come out and look at my air conditioning. They told me it was gonna be a $100 deductible then I gave my credit card and they charged it. When the tech was here, he noted some stuff that he thought was wrong with the ductwork and said that he was gonna write up and give it to the warranty company. A lot of times something happens to my system and they’ll say they have no record of me ever getting it serviced, so at the time, I went ahead and had someone come out. Also, my house was built in 2016, so I wanted it documented that my AC system was working properly. But since the tech came out, I haven’t heard anything from anyone about my claim.
Other than that, AHS was a little expensive. I paid for my warranty upfront for an entire year so I was asking if I'd get a discount for paying for everything at once. When the rep said no, I told her that I could just go somewhere else and get it cheaper. She started saying how their work was so much better than everybody else's and how certain companies say that they would do certain things but they don’t. In the end, she knocked $50 off. But other companies were way cheaper and 50 bucks was a little ridiculous. And iIf I never use the service again, they just made free money for 10 months.

My heater was recently blowing cold air, and I made an online claim for it as it was early in the morning and American Home Shield wasn't open yet. When they contacted me, they gave me a window of what time they could be here, and they got here at 11:30. The tech was great, and I made sure I got his name. Now that American Home Shield lets us choose our people, I'm gonna make sure I choose him because he's Nest-certified. My home is new and it's a smart home, and that's very important to me. In fact, they had a second guy come out so they could work two ends of the project to make sure everything was either not working properly or working properly. It hasn't been repaired yet though. I had a dripping faucet and American Home Shield sent a plumber out. The first plumber came and looked at it, and he told me there would be a $200 extra charge for access, which I okayed. He was gonna fix the faucet in the kitchen and in the tub. He came back on his second visit, and he fixed the faucet in the kitchen. Then he went to do the one in the tub, and he said he had changed his mind and it was gonna be $800. I said no because the deal was $200 for doing both. I then called American Home Shield, and I told them of what happened. This took forever. I must have called them 25 times to try to get this resolved. Finally, they sent out a second plumber to take a look at the tub. There was nothing wrong with the plumbing nor with the cartridges or the valves. Everything was fine. The first plumber was a liar and a thief but the second plumber was an honest man, and he replaced the broken handle for $10.
AHS is a horrible company. To get them to come out and fix something is very difficult. They're very quick to answer your phones when they're asking you to buy their products. But when you're trying to collect on their product and enforce the provisions of the insurance contract that you bought, they're very slow to respond, especially if it escalates like this one did with me. It was a nightmare to try to get somebody to deal with, and then you'd talk to a different person every time. I probably talked to eight different people, escalated it a number of times up to so-called managers. They also looked through the fine print to try to get out of doing stuff too.
This is the second time I bought their product. We bought their product on the other house that we had before this house, and we paid the extra coverage to have the heater coverage for the swimming pool. The heater failed but when the contractor came out, they did a Mickey Mouse repair job to make it last a couple more months until the warranty expired. Sure enough, the warranty expired and the heater broke again. I called a person to come out and they looked at the job that the prior people had done and said this was just a substandard quick repair to try to avoid having to replace the whole heater. So I had to go buy a whole heater because AHS cheated me by trying to do substandard repairs rather than replace it when they should have replaced it.
AHS has a horrible rating. I'm surprised they're still on business. If you go online and look at Yelp, there are hundreds of people who've had similar experiences with mine. The people at AHS are crooked as heck and they're dishonest people. They also avoided me extensively. I probably spent, without exaggeration, at least 10 hours on the phone trying to get them to fix the things that they should under their so-called warranty. They have their first-level people who you talk to on the phone and they are ignorant. They don’t know anything about plumbing, heating, or anything at all. But AHS gives them a script that they’ll say, “Oh, no. That’s not covered under Section 4F or J3.” And you'll look up J3 and say, “It absolutely is.” You'll have to correct them because they play a game telling you it's not covered. They're scammers.

Something happened under the kitchen sink where the dishwasher, the garbage disposal unit and the Instahot were in. It had an electrical issue. It messed up the dishwasher and the garbage disposal. And it was difficult because I had to call American Home Shield, get an automated menu, and I had to pick just one option. I tried to get someone on the phone the first time but I waited 10 minutes and then, it hung up on me. But when I finally got someone, the lady service agent was nice and she got someone in.
I like AHS and they have done good work, but a lot of time was wasted having to get somebody for things when if I just had one person, they come, they do it. And my experience was that they came, they needed a part, then I got to schedule another day. Like most recently with the garbage disposal, I told them that the electrician said we needed a new garbage disposal unit. I asked them to bring one so they brought one. But it was one horsepower when mine had twice the horsepower. It was frustrating. I couldn't use my garbage disposal for weeks so it just sat there until they could come back. In the meantime, stuff was down in there and I had to get them out. Also, the disposal and the dishwasher problems that shut down my kitchen have been resolved, but not without a lot of back and forth. AHS seemed like a good deal, but if I got to deal with many people, it’s not. I would just hire one person to do it if I have extra resources.

Stay away, I purchased a home warranty and have had it with this company for several years. I live in a small town and they do not have a supply of technicians in my area. I understand this and I have used due diligence in my needed repairs. It seems AHS when they can uses the lower end of the quality when they do have contractor. In which this is a constant battle. I have had a plumbing leak for more than 3 weeks and the company (AHS) has assigned a local plumber that has a very bad reputation and has even been taken to court and has had judgments placed against him! Why would I want to be involved with anyone of this caliber? I do not. I have ask for assistance and I have been told twice now by the same company rep that since this company has already been assigned we cannot and will not authorize anyone else to correct your covered problem! Now I do not believe this to be true. This is just the first problem I have had.
This company AHS sent a repairman to repair or diagnosis my heating problem. The company they initially sent wanted 2500.00 to get my heating system to CODE. I contacted the company they originally sent and got a detailed list of the needed code items. I then contacted the municipality I live in and was told this was outrageous. I then called AHS again. They sent another company and the second company charged me 100.00 to meet the code items.
I now have heat and was not lied to or tried to be took by a dishonest company. And now after thorough review of my contract AHS has an agreement to pay a certain amount for code violations. I will say that if you ever get by to a supervisor usually your problem is handled, but to keep you from communicating with a "decision maker" you are put on hold for maybe more than an hour. And if notice a delayed response from the rep when you ask a question that is because a senior person is listening in on the conversation and the rep is being told what to say.
Like I have said anytime I have had an issue and actually have had the item repaired it has been 100% of the time by an escalated or senior person. Just take this information and use it wisely before you invest. A company with only 7000 5 stars and 2000 poor 1, 2 or even 3 stars should tell you something. So since I am 81 years old they may think they can railroad me but they better have extremely good luck in doing so as I have keep records, witnesses, and even pictures of the problems, but now I am getting too tired to keep this up and the stress, so I have been told to get help. Just review the company review guidelines and perhaps this will answer why there is no more negative reviews, just saying.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

The heater was blowing cold air even when I had the unit off. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield which was the easier method. It was super simple to navigate their website and usually, somebody would contact me within 24 hours, which was quick. I knew right away who the person was because it showed right on the website. That way, if I wanted to call the them, I could which was what I did. I contacted them on a Friday to submit the claim but they don't work on the weekend and they said they would get back to me. It was fine because we had heaters for the house. Then on Monday, Rose Heating and Air, the contractor, was out.
I asked Rose if they could call before they come and they did but I was at work at the time. They called 30 minutes before the guy came, so I was able to run home and meet him. He checked out the heater and found out what the problem was right away. They ordered the part and he said it might take a few days to get it but the next day, they called me and said they had the part. They came back and they put it in and it was fixed.
I've been with American Home Shield for six months now and that was my second claim. There's a $100 deductible and you can pay it online while you're submitting the claim, so you don't have to worry about any of that and that is what I do. My sister has American Home Shield and she has filed several claims over the years. She said that's who I need to go to because she has never had an issue with them. They came in and took care of things. They even had to replace their dishwasher one time. There are no problems with getting American Home Shield do the work that needs to be done.

I noticed that my kitchen disposal unit was leaking. I went through the American Home Shield website on my phone, pulled up my contract, submitted a claim late that night and checked off the disposal. I then got a confirmation from AHS. I proactively called once I had a number and left a message to make sure. I was called back the next day. As soon as I made contact, the contractor said they would be there the next day. They gave me the approximate time. They showed up on time, I showed them where the problem was, and they looked at it. They got a disposal unit out of the truck, installed it, and they were good to go. The process was very smooth and efficient.
But I've had other claims that didn't go quite as smoothly. AHS has to manage their process a little bit more. AHS works very well in the front end but once they do the front end, it's up to me to coordinate with the vendor and not AHS keeping me updated. If you don't do it yourself with the vendor, it's kinda like the only thing AHS is interested in is billing you for the $75, and not so much keeping you advised as to where that vendor is and the process of ordering a part. I just see the bill from AHS which is fine.
Sometimes it's better to cut out the middle man and work directly with a vendor, whoever the local is. But sometimes, it'd be nice if AHS' feedback system worked a little bit better so that I could go to one spot. In the case of a refrigerator repair, it’s been out for at least three weeks and I haven't heard anything. It’s up to me to call the vendor back, where I think what should be happening is American Home Shield should be following up with that vendor to see if the refrigerator is actually repaired or not and giving me a status so I don't have to do it myself.
Also, I might have two or three questions and I see a charge in my account. It's hard to even reconcile what trouble the charge was for. Sometimes, I don't get any status updates on the other requests that have not been completed yet. I still have one claim on another property that is halfway done and I haven't had an update. I value the American Home Shield service but in my wife's case, she got upset enough that she canceled hers for her properties and she went on her own. I haven't gotten to that point yet.

I had some issues with electrical outlets in my home and when I filed an online claim with AHS and it’s easy. There’s nothing a customer service agent is gonna do for me that’s not in the app. They sent out techs from Central Electric who fixed the issue and were amazing. I also called in a claim for a refrigerator concern and I wish the contractor was a little bit more proactive. At the time, I provided a lot of information like the model of my refrigerator, the symptoms it was having, and all things seemed to lead to one thing. And I had to wait for someone to come out to the house to tell me it was indeed still that one thing, then I had to wait for them to order a part to come back out.
So, I didn't understand the reasoning behind me providing information about my refrigerator beforehand because it didn't seem to come into play at all. Other than that, the techs who came out for everything else were awesome. They came with whatever tools they needed and were ready to do their jobs. AHS has been great as well.

When The dishwasher wouldn’t work, and the pump and the heater were clogged, John came out and he was super. His professionalism and quality of work were top of the line. My house is only four years old so I’m not even gonna have a lot of stuff going on. But every time I call American Home Shield for something that I think is serious, they find a way to say it would not be covered. They always use some section where they don’t cover this and this, and it is so weird. As consumers, we don’t necessarily read all the fine print. I’ve never even received a copy of their plan and besides, it’s bogus. For example, you have a main pipe that is covered but even if it’s the same pipe, if it leaves the house, then it’s no longer covered. This was my most recent claim and it was really annoying. This was not the first time either. There have been many times where our issue has been the main pipe or whatever outside, and it has never been covered.
You have an inside and an outside of the house. If you have a leak and it leaks in the garden, it’s not covered. But that’s weird because the land is yours. It is not only misleading but it is also dishonest in a way. I’m getting a bit fed up of spending hundreds of dollars every year when anytime there is a main claim, AHS doesn’t cover it. I don’t need them for the small items. But of course, that’s what they’re gonna cover. If I knew that the warranty would only cover the inside, I would have tried to find another warranty that covers everything. I will also not be wasting my time going online to file the claim. They give you options and if there’s a pipe leak, they should at least identify if it’s outside so I won’t even be wasting my time to have them bring somebody. Maybe it would also save them money as opposed to bringing people to tell me, “Sorry, it’s not gonna be covered.”
I had an electrical issue involving the transformer once and I was actually shocked that it was covered. The lovely man who came in said those were expensive lights but the problem was that the transformer would go away quickly. He said he doubted that AHS would cover it and I was going to tell him to just do the work and that I didn’t care if they would cover. But it seemed like he knew how how the warranty works – what they cover and what they don’t. Maybe it is a practice that is accepted by people. But as a consumer, it’s not really the best feeling. You’re not paying a lot of money. It is about $600 a year but you would expect that once in a blue moon, they're gonna cover something. But I guess it is the business of warranty companies. They want to maximize the profit at the expense of the consumer.
I also had a claim for the central vacuum and in the beginning, I received a phone call from a lady at American Home Shield. She said, “I’m sorry. I know it’s covered but nobody wants to work with us so we don’t have any contractor.” She asked me to find my own contractor but there were stipulations: 1) I could contact them, but 2) I could not do any work until AHS has approved it and the contractor has to contact them, and 3) I have to pay the contractor if AHS approves them then AHS would pay me.
When the lady gave me a section and was reading it, I was gonna get annoyed. But I figured there was no reason to get annoyed. She was just the middleman and she was just doing her job. I told her, “I don’t wanna listen to this. Thank you. I understand but you are gonna do it.” I told her they couldn’t tell me that in the couple of years that I’ve had the warranty, they didn’t have any contractor. I made a complaint regarding the fact that they were providing me a service that I was paying for and the fact that they did not provide that service. This was really when I had somebody who escalated it to a level where they sent somebody.
They did send me somebody but, of course, he didn’t do anything. American Home Shield just had to send somebody to deny whatever work needed to be done. At the end of the day though, the central vacuum does work, although not perfectly. The contractor who came out was a sweet chap. He said that the central vacuum was small and it should not have been put in for my 5,000-square-feet house. He said the suction was not that great and I needed a vacuum that is bigger. He said he was gonna call AHS and I should be receiving a phone call. But I never received a phone call. There is a missed call from a 1-800 number though, and I assumed it was American Home Shield because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt that they did call. But I’m sure they wanted to give me another section in which they would not do whatever they were supposed to do.
My experience with American Home Shield has not been great but it's fine. In the scheme of life, it was not a big deal but it was annoying to have a home insurer that doesn’t do anything. Another thing is that when we bought the house, there was a plan that was for a new house but then it was switched. American Home Shield said that after a couple of years, they don’t offer the plan anymore. They give you a different option and then you choose that. But they automatically enroll it without your knowing because you are doing an autopay. I have even stopped that because I wanna be very careful, especially now that it is approaching the end of the contract. If I don’t stop the autopay, they will renew it without me wanting to do it.
I don’t know if I wanna renew my contract with American Home Shield. I have to do my research as far as finding other people out there. The only thing I have is the ability to change the recipient of the monthly stuff that I pay. I’m sure they’re gonna provide the same type of services, but at least, I would wanna give business to people that give me great customer service.

They assigned a company but we waited a week before service because the company that we were utilizing had a lot on schedule. We had a good experience with it and the service was awesome. Our warranty went fine but the replacement happened so fast I wasn’t aware of what type of garbage disposal was put in. We had a KitchenAid and I’ve got some generic-type brown disposal that was put in. I wish I was walked through what type of appliance they were replacing it with and how it was comparable to what we had. I’m a little pickier when it’s the things you can see on the outside like your microwaves or your ovens. I had no idea on the garbage disposal.
I did the claim with AHS online which was easy and convenient because I didn’t have to wait on hold for 30 to 60 minutes which generally seems to be the hold time I’ve experienced when calling the home warranty company. Doing it online was quick. They said somebody would be in contact with me within the next 24 hours and they were, which was good. The plumbing company that came out was excellent but I noticed that my deductible was charged quickly. Fortunately, I was prepared for it but I wasn’t aware that they take your deductible out before the service is even done. Usually, they charge you after the service has been completed. Now that I know that, I won’t go online and I’ll wait. I wanna know that somebody has come out and actually done the service before my deductible is taken.
We’ve had a good experience with our contractors. We’ve had an appliance repair person from Sears that was outstanding and a plumber who got right to work and did his business. He was totally professional. I had the least good experience with our very first issue with the young man that came out on our dryer. He held to the terms of the home warranty company and the part had to be shipped, but it took a long time. He was a little bit more vocal back and forth as far as dealing with a customer than I probably would have expected but he still got the job done and he gave some great pointers or recommendations. AHS is worth it. People need to look at what they wanna cover because some things aren’t worth it. A garbage disposal, you could pretty much have one of those installed at a pretty good rate and you’re paying $100 deductible. So, they’re not too expensive.
I would recommend AHS especially since I’m a single parent and I wanna make sure that it’s something that will continue to support our needs if we have additional issues. Sometimes when you have something that goes wrong, you feel bad about calling in again. I wanna make sure that we continue to get the same customer service. Sometimes it’s hard to communicate with the person that’s on the other end but today, I had a wonderful person that I spoke with. They are probably all great but there’s a little bit of a communication barrier sometimes when you get somebody and understanding what they’re trying to tell you.

Whenever I file a claim to American Home Shield, I do it over the phone and it's easy to get the claim started after the hold time. My most recent one was a main line backup and it has not been completed. I originally had Service Mechanical come out but they needed a company that was more equipped to service the main line. It was more of an issue than what he was equipped for so the contractor got back in touch with American Home Shield. Then, Patriot Plumbing came out and said that the problem was with the belly that we had in our main line. It was a miscommunication between them and American Home Shield, and AHS terminated the claim because Patriot Plumbing wasn't getting in touch with them as fast enough.
They had Service Mechanical come out again to take a look at the main line. It's just weird that it's taking forever to get any sort of answer. Overall American Home Shield has been great with the 10 years I’ve had them, but I want them to get in touch with me and see if we might get the mainline fixed as soon as possible.

My garbage disposal was clogged. It was easy when I made an online claim to American Home Shield and the response time was less than 24 hours. I had an efficient technician who was pleasant and effective. The repair hasn’t been a week but right now, the garbage disposal is great. Overall with American Home Shield, my experience has been good. I had an issue in the past with my air conditioner but I replaced the whole unit. Everything else is fine.

He showed up even a little bit early but made sure that was gonna be okay and that I was gonna be home. He did what needed to be done.

I was told by a different contractor that my ignition on my furnace was going to go out soon. I put in a claim for repair online and navigating through the website was very easy. The only thing I wish is, I didn't see a space where I could put in my comments but I was able to choose what it was for or what I think might have been it. Then, of course, I paid for it online too.
The contractor A Johnson Heating & Cooling contacted me within 24 hours and the tech was very professional and helpful. He looked at the ignition and said that it looked fine on the furnace but there was something he needed to do get the furnace from freezing out since we're having such cold temperatures. So, he did that and I haven't had any problems since. Everything's been perfect and the repair has had positive effect in the day-to-day operations in our home. Having the AHS warranty is very valuable and it gives me a lot of peace of mind. I've actually talked to my neighbors about it and recommended they use American Home Shield too.

The whole process to the actual vendor that came out was good. They were quite efficient and they got it done. In regards to the American Home Shield, the whole process was very monotonous and very tedious. I was on the phone with them for two hours because when I first made the call, they said, "Okay, yeah. Heating with air-conditioning, okay," but when I mentioned the heating, because it's all tied together, they said that I gotta call back.
I mentioned that to the guy that came out here. He said that in order for me to have him look at that, I gotta call back and ask for an add on. I said okay and I spent like an hour. The guy took forever. I was at work and I needed my phone. I need to work. It took way too much time to add it on. Then, the guy said I could do it online but I can't do an add on to a service call online. American Home Shield should probably change that, so it doesn't waste our time because I was about ready to just give up at one point. What ended up happening is that I was on the phone for 42 minutes instead of just having a button online to do an add on for a service call. Also, the rep was so slow and I would be on hold for six or seven minutes and he was still working on it. It took way too long. Other than that, the contractor who came out were good and they knocked it out in one go.

Our ice maker was giving us problems with our refrigerator. It was easy enough to submit the claim to American Home Shield online and the service I got from their contractor was fine. However, I would've liked it to have been a little quicker. The issue was that when they scheduled a time to bring the part out, I told them that my husband and I had an appointment in the timeframe that they gave us. I told them we probably would not be home until after a specific time, and they said they would make a note of that to let the repairman know. That didn't happen though. The repairman called us about an hour and a half before we were done with our appointment. So we missed him and we had to wait another week for him to come out to install the part. I wasn't really happy with that part.
The delay was an inconvenience. But when he finally came out, it only took him around 10 minutes to repair the refrigerator. The only other issue I have with American Home Shield is that when they automatically charge something on my card other than the regular payment, I would like to know what it is. I found a charge on my card and there's no explanation other than they're the ones that made the charge.

I've been with American Home Shield since last year and I’m very happy with them. When my furnace was not working, I called them and told the problem. I was satisfied with my experience with them. They said they'll be sending somebody to come and look at it. They got me a contractor, United Air Temp, the next day. I gave my fees. When the contractor called, he told me they will be there at a certain time. And they were there on time and took care of the problem the same day. Since they left, nothing else had happened. The furnace is still working. They did a good job. I would give American Home Shield a positive recommendation if I have to tell somebody about them.

My furnace wasn’t staying lit and it was too much and it was really cold. I called American Shield and they sent me somebody, but that person never responded back. The guy came and fixed the problem and we haven't had a problem with the furnace since.
American Home Shield has improved because before, it would take forever to get through when you were trying to make a claim, but now, if you hit the status of your order, it kind of circumvents you from the other people that are just making the claim. I had a claim in progress and the person never responded, so when I hit 3, I got to talk to somebody right away. So, that was nice. It seemed like the process was a lot smoother than before. Also, with American Home Shield, I don’t have to worry about things that break down. I can just call and have them send somebody out.

I've been with American Home Shield for at least 10 years. I haven't used them that much, but every time I’ve used them, I’ve been happy with the results. I submit claims with them online, which is so easy to do. All I do is go on the internet, and it runs me through it. It’s so simple. I can do it in a couple of minutes on what I need to do. Then, I get a response in my email that they’ve called or they will call the company to take care of my problem. And I usually get a call within either that day or the next day.
The contractors that have come out have been good. But there was a situation with the plumbing guys. I had a very valuable book that ended up being gone downstairs. I had looked at the book just a day or so before, and after the problem with the water heater was over with, I went to get the book and it was gone. I don’t know who else would've taken it and I don’t know if it was him or not. But that was the only problem I’ve ever had.
We also had an individual come out to fix the icemaker and that was fine. With the washing machine, the contractor was supposed to be out yesterday. But we’ve had bad weather here in Kansas City, so they grounded the trucks. Then, he was supposed to be out this afternoon, but we had another bad night. So, they grounded the trucks today again. He said that the earliest he could be out is Monday at noon. But the weather has been bad here and the roads have been icy, so I can understand that. I would recommend American Home Shield.

So I just called the plumber and have him come in to do the repair. But it was expensive. While the plumber was here, he went to check the water pressure and some other things that he does. When he checked the water heater, he said it was really dangerous and needed to be fixed as well. He also pointed out a pipe that was all white. It was leaking and he said I should get it fixed. When I told him that I have to pay American Home Shield $75 to come out, he said he charges more than that. The next time I have any kind of problem, I’ll call American Home Shield instead of him.

Had a handle come out of a shower so I turned off the main water line and called American Home Shield. They sent out a plumber the next day to which he looked at the damage and seemed confused. Eventually he said it looks like freeze damage and the wall would need to be removed and the valve needed to be replaced but the warranty company won't cover freeze damage. Asked for a second opinion to take a look and never heard from them even when I called them.
Had a REAL plumber come out since I needed water at my house and he said the "freezing of the valve" couldn't happen since my house stays warm, the garage only drops to 56 degrees and the pipes stayed plenty warm. The cartridge was bad which took 6 minutes to replace and fixed the issue with a $10 part. Was told by American Home Shield that if I had a quote done by another company they sent out within 48 hours, that they could use his diagnosis (they called 45 hours after the occurrence). I requested for no service fee or reimbursement for the lies told by their contractors but still haven't been able to get an unscripted answer from anyone in India which just an FYI they "don't have any management."

We have two contracts with AHS, so the old contract was still associated with their email but the new one wasn’t. The first time I filed a claim with American Home Shield I had a rough start. The first contractors were a no-show and we had to wait. It took almost a week to get the work done. More recently, the fan for my central heating went out. My wife called American Home Shield and they arranged for Foxcroft HVAC to come out. The technician who arrived did a good job. AHS was on it and couldn't have done any better.

My sinks were backed up. We submitted a claim online to AHS. Navigating through their website was pretty easy. I got a text right away from the contractors. However, they said they would be there between 8:00 in the morning all the way until 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon. And that was a big window. They got there around 11:00 that day. But the thing was that I didn’t go to the gym because I was waiting around. But the interaction with the contractors was good. They came in, they put things around their shoes to cover it up, and then they went upstairs, where the problem was. So far, having AHS has been very valuable. They also fixed our dishwasher.

I had sewage pouring out of the shower and out of the bathtub. The shower was low, so it was all over into the cabin and it was horrible. This was two Sundays ago. The first time was not bad. The first time, the water started coming out, so the people who went in the cabin turned off all the water and it stopped. I called American Home Shield and they got 1st Call Plumbing to go out right away and they took care of the problem. The plumber didn’t end up snaking it out because the water just started flowing down. He couldn’t find the problem. The water started flowing and he got it cleared out. When he came the next Sunday, the same thing happened but this time, it just started pouring and kept coming up. It's going on the floor and everything, poop and pee.
I called American Home Shield and I got a lady who was probably overseas and she didn’t get it. She said that she was gonna have it expedited. I told her that she was not even gonna find anybody open on a Sunday. I was on the phone with her for over an hour. I had somebody who I thought could go out there on a Sunday and they probably could have if she had approved it early in the morning when I first called. I asked if I could get outside authorization for somebody to go out. I said that I have raw sewage on my floor and she asked me what would be the reason for needing outside authorization. This was after she had tried about five different people and couldn’t find anybody to come out.
Then she supposedly found somebody that could come out and I told her that I don’t think they can. She said that it says 24 hours, that they're expediting it and that they would call me within four hours. Four and a half hours later, I called the number that she had called and I talked to the lady who had talked to her and she said that she told her specifically that they could not expedite it and that nobody could go out here on a Sunday. It was a nightmare. So, I called American Home Shield back and I was told I would be called back within four hours by somebody from the dispatch team. I never got that call. I gave up. I went to bed because it was about eight hours later.
On Monday, I called American Home Shield first thing in the morning and I find out that the claim was cancelled. I called the plumbing company and they said that I cancelled it. I told them that I didn’t and they told me that American Home Shield cancelled it. So, I called American Home Shield and they said that the first guy who went out originally had to go back. So, they called 1st Call Plumbing and thankfully, they were able to go out the next day and we've been working with them.
The plumber had to put a claim out between the septic tanks in the cabin and I was told by American Home Shield, after he did that, that then it would be authorized for him to snake it out and that if there were still problems, it would be authorized for him to use a camera in it to find out what the problem was. But I got a bill last night from 1st Call Plumbing and it says on there that American Home Shield did not authorize there to be a camera. I have previously been told that if he couldn’t find the problem, then he could use a camera.
Also, the plumber has to cut out a section of the pipe and I know that that’s not covered by American Home Shield. But we're fine with paying for the clean out because that has to be put in and we know that’s not covered because that’s something that the first person who built it should have done and they never did. Now, I'm still trying to get a quote for them to cut out the pipe and all I've been told is that American Home Shield denied the camera snaking thing. That should've been covered by American Home Shield.
Another thing is I asked that AHS lady on the phone about four times if I could speak to her supervisor and each time, she would say that he's on the phone. Then when I talked to somebody on Monday, she said that I was probably sent overseas for my phone call, so there probably wasn’t even a supervisor there. If a claim is something that happens on a weekend, giving me to somebody overseas, somebody who does not speak English as a first language, it is very difficult. We got nowhere and I was losing my mind. God took care of the whole thing in the end. Our floors are not ruined. Our house cleaner was able to clean it up but it took a lot.
Good afternoon Kathryn,
Your concerns are understood regarding the coverage that American Home Shield provides and the sewage service request. Per the contract it states that there are some exclusions, etc. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

The AHS rep gave me a number and said someone from quality appliance services would be calling me. Then the contractor came, and I had to move the stuff out of the refrigerator. He had to get a new part the first time and that took about a week and a half, but they were quick after that. They fixed the icemaker, but we still had a problem with it making some noise, so they came back out. On the second time, it was more on fixing something that was part of the unit and it's been doing fine since. Having a warranty has been valuable so far and American Home Shield is good.

The first time we had our microwave looked at for its peeling they spray painted over it and it's already peeling again, now it isn't heating up and it is taking 3-5 weeks to be fixed (not fixing the peeling paint inside). Their turn around time on anything is not what they advertise and I tried calling them and they just repeated themselves and transferred me to no one. I will be looking for a new warrant company, maybe one that actually fixes things.

Two fellows came and they looked at it for about 30 seconds and said that they were gonna replace it right then. The helper went to the truck, got one and 15 minutes later, they were through. They were very courteous and kind and they did a good job.
One thing I was disappointed with AHS though was that I wanted to get them to check my heater before the season, but they told me that they don’t take care of anything unless there’s a problem. Preventative maintenance checks keep appliances from being a problem and I don’t agree with not wanting to check out the products especially heating and air conditioning. Other than that, AHS was fairly thorough. I questioned the service for the disposer being three days but that wasn’t a big deal. They were very kind and they made the appointment immediately.

It was spewing water and I couldn’t turn it off. I had to turn off the main water from the house. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they immediately sent me the text saying who was going to my house.
The plumber went out the next day or the day after that and took a photo of what was going on. He capped off the water so that I could turn the water back on from the main outside. It took a while for the contractor to submit the estimate to American Home Shield and for American Home Shield to review it and see if the claim was covered by my policy because the plumber was easy. Some just wait and go ahead with the allotted time of 24 hours and others don't. They call me right away or within that same day so it's fantastic. Chaney Electric had to come out and they were great. Everybody that AHS had sent is good this time around. But there were some that take longer. There was also one year where they were horrible and the claim was for an air conditioning. But the contractors have gotten a lot better.
I've been with American Home Shield for a few years now, and I have noticed that my monthly price has been going up. I still need to get an electrical in. I’ve had American Home Shield for the last five years and every time we've had a problem, they’ve done a fantastic job so I’m very happy. Our furnace went out on the coldest day we had ever seen here in Michigan. The exhaust motor was out and it came to a grinding halt. That was why I made the call and filed the claim. The automated system wasn’t too bad. Sometimes, it doesn’t understand the response but that’s typical of many automated systems. When I made the call last Wednesday, it was the automated system that made the claim. Then in the morning, I did a follow-up with the vendor that was assigned. But they could not accommodate us that same day.
So I called AHS again. I got a live agent and Gordon was phenomenal in helping me out. He spent almost 25 minutes with me on the phone. He tried multiple vendors to see who could come out to our house within the next four or five hours and he was able to find one, Attar Enterprises. The Attar team did good and were awesome. It was Brad who looked at the unit and he knew exactly what the problem was. He said that as long as they had the part, he should be back in an hour, and he was. He got the work done and was very helpful. He even cleaned up. It was a very professional service and the furnace is now working as expected. Keep doing well, American Home Shield.

I did that earlier but not recently when I haven't had to speak with them about issues. A couple of times when I called, the phone lines were busy. There was a call volume and a long wait. Normally, I would wait, but because of my schedule I couldn’t stay on the phone and wait.
The coming of the contractors has been spaced out, but everybody that has come out to me has been professional. They've done what they were supposed to do, helped, and tried to make sure they were giving me knowledge of what went on and possibly what happened. All of them have been great and the quality of the repairs they made was good. Recently, my dryer was turning but wasn’t heating up. I called AHS to submit a claim and the experience was great. My husband set up our coverage with American Home Shield, but they should be contacting me because I'm the one at home. There has been a confusion. An electronic board in the heater needed to be replaced. I filed a claim with AHS and they sent out a crew from South Placer Heating and Air who acknowledged the problem. But they never followed up and ordered the part. They were also rude and when we called them to follow up, their rep said they thought that we were gonna take care of it. That made no sense at all since the repair was covered.
Also, when my wife asked the rep she talked to if she could just talk to the tech who was out here so he'd tell her what happened, she said she could only go by the notes. At the same time, she was claiming that she was the owner and that she was the final say-so. That created the conflict. But the owner called me after he was told of the conflict and said that it was not an issue. He also said that he would get it all taken care of as soon as American Home Shield reissued a work order. But eventually, AHS got somebody else out who was very good and he got it all taken care of. All in all, the claim was completed in two weeks.
Aside from that, we were told that because of the cold weather back east, AHS wasn’t very accessible. So my wife had to be on the phone for an excess of an hour to be able to make the claim. But we had some weather that was 70 below and it was straining everyone’s capacity, so I get it. Aside from that, often, people that buy that type of insurance are hesitant because it seems that at the end of the day, insurers always find a reason to say that their claim is not covered. But we can’t all be prepared for all things at all times and I don’t blame AHS for what happened with my last claim because in the end, they took care of it.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a water leak on my refrigerator line. It was a small leak, but still, a leak is a leak and the meter was still running on it. Amazing Plumber and Rooter came out, but the guy that came didn’t confirm when he first came. The property hasn’t ever been maintained by the last owner and I just acquired it, and when he got to the property, the tenants weren't in the best position, so he was a bit irritated walking into a home like that.
He was in there last week and he told me, "Oh, I have to come back 'cause I don’t have this part." I said, "Okay." I was standing there waiting, then he got a phone call and as soon as he got the phone call, he was really rude about it. He started talking and walking out the door. I asked, "Uh, hello? When are you coming back?" He said, "Well, if I can come back tomorrow, I will. But if not, then it'll have to be some time next week or someone will call you." They called me by Monday, but it was a little frustrating.
They sent me a text message and I forwarded it to my tenant that someone was on their way. The company texted me back and said, "No, they came out at 9 o'clock." I didn’t even know what was going on. If I'm getting a text at 11 and I text my tenant that the tech was coming at nine, it was backward the way the company was doing it. Nevertheless, the whole repair did not take long.
I really appreciate having American Home Shield because it has made owning a property a lot easier. I just wish that, in some way, the customer interaction with the next contractor would be a bit smoother. I've had American Home Shield since 1999 and we got them in Dallas then also in Memphis. A couple of years ago, there was a water spot in my downstairs dining room and I called AHS. They assigned a contractor and a guy came out. He told me it was just the caulking around the tub and shower and that I needed to recaulk it, then he left. I ripped all that out, recaulked it all, and then about two weeks later, a hole came through my ceiling because the water in the drain tube in the back of the tub had a leak, and the guy didn't see that. AHS wouldn't cover the damage to the ceiling or the floor. So then, I asked for that contractor to never come back.
Then I did a request online for a toilet that was messed up and they sent the same company out here. I guess it resets every year who I don't want to come out. AHS denied my claim for that because I replaced the handle in the tank. The handle costs $8 but AHS said they wouldn't cover the claim. I was gonna fire them there but they offered me $300 at the end of the day. This problem has been going on for six weeks and I'm not too impressed right now. I'm frustrated.
I had another claim after Christmas with the air that was blowing downstairs. The guy AHS sent out came and was here for about 15 minutes. He got the appliance working and then he left. Two weeks later, it did the same thing so I called him back. AHS said that the first guy said there was no problem. But the second guy said there was a wire loose. He said that he attached a wire really good and got it working again. Then there was no heat on Monday and it was still 50 degrees downstairs. The guy had to order a part that day and he also said that he needed something cleaned. So he cleaned a bunch of stuff and I paid out of pocket.
When the part came in on Tuesday, the contractor had a breakdown with their truck and they were a couple of hours late. It was supposed to be 1 to 5 so I had to leave my son's birthday party. They said that they could fix it from outside and I didn't have to be there and that the appliance would be working when I get home. However, it's still not working when I got home last night so they're coming back in today. AHS has always been helpful, but in the last couple of years, the contractors haven't fixed the issues or they've had issues. Also, I can get a cheaper contract than AHS.

When I tried to make a recall for them to come and change the cartridge for me, they left me on the phone for more than two hours and nobody picked up so I went online to do it. But it's a little bit complicated to submit a claim online.
This last time, I was also supposed to put a claim for my toilet. But they did not allow me to do that and only let me put the claim for the faucets. I had to submit two claims, which is very difficult and costly for me. Now, I have to make a $75 payment to fix my toilet and then, the faucets. I feel like I'm going to change my home warranty to another one because of that. But the problem is with whoever is managing the website and not AHS. The people at AHS are helpful and other than the tech who would not allow me to get the refrigerator with my claim for my faucet, their techs are decent. They are also good with claims and it only takes 24 hours, or at most, two days for somebody to take it and contact me. Then by the third day, it's done.

I had an attic fan that would not push in air through the actual vents even though it would come on. And while I had a good experience submitting a claim to American Home Shield, it was unclear on a couple of the options. Having a little more explanation would have been nice. But the technician from Total Air Care came out not much later. He was very knowledgeable and thorough, and he got the problem fixed. Since then, the attic fan has been good. I was very happy with the experience.
Good morning Tina,
I am pleased to hear about the AHS technician who serviced you and completed the attic fan repairs.

They came 5 times in 90 days and kept repairing the hot water heater and then the last time they came out said we needed a new one and then declined to replace it due parts missing and there service company is the only one that ever worked on it. Extremely disappointed and will never recommend these thieves to anyone. I had another company come in and replace and will be cancelling the coverage. I spent almost $900.00 a year for over 3 years and they decline my first claim. It's a shame that is legal. The BBB is the complaint I will be filing.
Hello, Chad. I am so glad that I was able to assist you with a resolution.

This company is the epitome of false advertisement. They say "be sure with Home Shield". Lies! One thing you are sure of is that they will only provide temporary fixes to your issues. I have been stressed out due to not having heat where me and my two small children reside. No one wants to be without heat in their own home when it's 8 degrees outside. They send someone every year for the same thing, but yet I still have to pay the service fee. It's not right and it's not fair. I hope that these companies know that God sees everything. Beware!
Hello, Tiffany. I regret to hear that you are without heat at this time of the year. A member of our Social Media team will contact you to discuss your concerns.

We took AHS plan continuously for 3 years, and this is first time we got issue with Water heater. Contractor came on 4th day of submitting request and requested AHS to replace water heater. Getting approval and equipment took another 3 days. Now contractor giving us time to replace the water heater after another 4 days. So, we are without hot water in taps for 10 days.
Again, contractor has to charge $612 for other modification which is not covered in AHS. So, for me it is like paying $750 to AHS is waste every year. If you don't take any home warranty...you can get any repair done by same day or max. by 2-3 days in the same price as you pay for AHS + contractor. Waiting for hot water in your tap for 10 days in winter is that you never want. AHS need to take care of customer ease on priority rather than contractor ease on time frame they can provide their service. If not, they should tell customer to get things done by themselves and reimburse them later.

My 72 year old mother’s furnace went out on Tuesday, January 29th... AHS sent a contractor out and the guy had another appointment in 20 minutes, left us saying we needed Freon and couldn’t help us and left. It took us 24 hrs to get approval from AHS to hire our own contractor since none of theirs could make it out. Our contractor said the furnace needs to be replaced. They can replace the furnace today Thursday 1/31, and AHS wants a second opinion, they think it’s acceptable to wait another 24 hrs without heat in Chicago during our historic low temps, just so they can get a second opinion. Hopefully pipes don’t freeze during this time, and my 72 year old mom is ok.
