The refrigerator wasn't working and I called American Home Shield. We had a repair company come out and place the compressor on it. Two months later, it went out again, so we decided to go with a different company and Miller Appliance came out. They put another compressor in and that shut down after about another week. They came out again and determined that they would have to take the whole thing apart and replace pretty much everything because they weren't sure what it was. They decided to recommend replacement. The replacement was mostly covered and I'm waiting on reimbursement.

Our water heaters were broken and they started to leak. I filed a claim to American Home Shield online and their process was extremely easy. The next day, they sent out their contractor but he had to order parts. It took three days to get back to us to repair the heaters but the expectations were set properly. The contractor's service was exceptional. I was impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and respect for our house. Since then, our water heater works very good although he had to order one more part but that has already been done. And same process, it has been phenomenal. We’d recommend American Home Shield.

I bought a house around August last year and got American Home Shield for it on my daughter's recommendation. I have a tenant living there and he reported to me that there was a problem with the air conditioner. The heating system wasn’t functioning well and it wasn’t coming on. I called American Home Shield about it and two days later, they sent out R Harris AC & Heating. The guy from there was good and he fixed the problem. So far, my tenant hasn’t complained. He said it works perfectly. American Home Shield has done a great job for me and I've been very satisfied. I would recommend them.

I've been very pleased with the service, quality of the workmanship, punctuality and responsiveness of the company. They have managed to get in touch with me and get someone out here within 24 hours. I've had two of their contractors come out and they've been very efficient, conscientious in their work and attentive to detail. My furnace wasn't working and there was no hot air. Now, the furnace is working and that's what I wanted.

I had a kitchen faucet that was leaking. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. It was easy doing that. They got back to me within three hours and then it was a matter of me setting up an appointment as far as what was available for me. I kinda pushed it back for two weeks just because of my work schedule. The tech came, diagnosed the faucet and then he fixed it. He did that for about an hour. The faucet I had before had a lot more water pressure coming out and he explained to me that because of the California State Laws regarding water usage, they’re only allowed to install certain ones. So, the faucet does about 1.8 gallons per minute. Overall, I’ve been satisfied every time I use American Home Shield. Even when I’ve had to do a recall, they’d come back out. I’ve really had no issues with them and I’ve got them for several years now.

The dryer had a bad drum roller and AHS sent out Tri-City Appliance. The gentleman came out and he confirmed with me that it was, in fact, a bad drum roller, and he replaced it. He was here for about 20 minutes. However, I didn’t have to sign anything that the work had been performed, which was interesting and strange to me because without my signature on an invoice, I have no idea how Tri-City Appliance is going to keep track of any kind of a customer database. The gentleman gave me a business card and he verified that I paid the $75 service charge to American Home Shield. The gentleman was very professional and knowledgeable. It was a very quick and very painless procedure.

I wasn’t happy with American Home Shield's rate increase, but I can understand that ‘cause we had to have a stove replaced last year. Recently the switch went out so the dryer wouldn’t start. I filed the claim on Saturday but Bradley Appliance was closed, so I called them on Monday and the contractors came out first thing Tuesday morning. It was Brad the owner and another younger gentleman, and they were both very well dressed and clean. They said that the part was local, but they wouldn’t be able to come back out until the end of the week. That afternoon, I got a call from Brad who told me that he was going to pick up the part and that he had a call in Goodyear and then a call right by me in a different subdivision, so he was gonna be able to come back out that next morning. They were very courteous and I really appreciate him coming back out so quick. Now the dryer is working great.

AHS's has been responsive in trying to resolve my situation. I had a leak in my fridge but then the first time they sent a company out, they did some repairs yet the situation presented itself again. That same company then said that they couldn’t do any further. They referred the situation back to AHS so they could contact someone. But then, I didn’t hear a response for a couple of weeks so I called Home Shield back and they apologized for the situation. They contacted Sears to come out and look at my fridge. Sears' guys were professional and when I asked questions, they answered. They were a little better than the first company AHS sent as they were more knowledgeable.

We really liked the contractor American Home Shield sent out, Bestway Mechanical. We couldn't get the water to shut off in the shower and it was a lot of water. I just went on my profile online to file the claim but it was late at night so it was the next afternoon that the contractor came out. We wound up having a two-faucet issue, the shower and then the water shut off in the garage, and the guy took some extra time. He checked the other faucets in the bathroom and stuff while he was there, and everything is good now.

First Call Plumbing was sent by American Home Shield for our water heater that went out. My wife submitted a claim for it online. It went out on a Sunday, and they got somebody here as quickly as they could on a Tuesday. And they found a part that was wrong with it, and they were still trying to find the part, but they bypassed a safety switch to get us some hot water. And the last time my wife looked, they had requested a replacement for the water heater because they couldn't find the part.

I wish AHS would try to use somebody local here in my own hometown. I'm in Morristown, Tennessee and they used Knoxville, Tennessee, which is like 42 miles away. But the contractors were very professional and businesslike. They were here when they said they'd be here. They came in, told me what was going on, and told me what to expect. I'm very happy. I've recommended two of my other neighbors and they have gotten AHS.

It’s a good idea for a buyer to get a home warranty for their house. That way, if there are unexpected problems, they're covered. They’re not coming out of pocket for a lot of money. I’m a realtor and I recommend American Home Shield to all my buyers. I’ve used them several times and I don’t have problems with them. When my outside air unit was not working, Air Doctor AC & Heating came out and the experience was excellent. I did that claim on the phone and it was fine dealing with the representatives at American Home Shield. But it took a long time to get to them so I did the previous claim and the second one online. For this one, I was told to expect Air Doctor within 24 hours and they did call the next morning. When the technician came, I showed him what the problem was and he fixed it. I was very satisfied.

The dishwasher was shutting off intermittently and some of the lights were flickering on it. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online. The process was very simple and intuitive. It was pretty good. The contractor was great. He was very professional and very personable. We were making jokes together. So, it was a good interaction. The contractor did a great job. The issue ended up being something in the power panel. But it was due to water, and he said that it wouldn't be covered by the home warranty, which I haven't read enough about it to know one way or another. But I have a friend who is an electrician that came out and replaced the line, the receptacle and the breaker. It seems to working now, but the panel is still flickering. So, we're thinking about making a followup call to see if we can have an appliance person come and check it out.

I was very pleased with American Home Shield. I called them to file a claim for our refrigerator that wouldn't work at all. Express Appliance Service came out and they had to replace some pieces in the refrigerator. And it is working, which is a blessing but it's still draining water. A day after they got the refrigerator fixed, I went downstairs and I checked and saw that it was working. But I noticed that the pot that was sitting on the top of the refrigerator has water in the top of it. I thought it was just from the food. So I moved the pot and put a little bowl there, so if it it would leak then I could see it. And there was water in the bowl.

Other than that, they also fixed my washer and dryer. The thermostat on the dryer was making the dryer overheat, so it kept cutting off, but now it doesn't cut off anymore. My washing machine's buttons were pushed all the way in. And they replaced the panel for the buttons on the washing machine and that was good. The whole experience was very pleasant.

I called American Home Shield when the heater was not functioning right. The reps were very good and had very quick responses. The issue turned out to be the thermostat. As far as the repair goes, everything was stellar and that encompasses the overall visit from the tech to the repair. My experiences with American Home Shield were all positive in the approach and application. There was only one time when the air conditioner was repaired and it seemed to me that it would have been better to replace the unit versus just the repair itself because of the overall condition of the unit. But I thoroughly understand it from a business aspect. American Home Shield is in business to make money and make the customer happy at the same time. And they have to draw a line and stay within the parameters of the plan of business strategy.

Heater issues, phone call on Wednesday requesting service call. No one is available until Friday between noon and 4pm. At ten minutes until 4pm two technicians arrive. Assess the problem, tell us part won’t be ordered til Monday by the people who order parts. They are gone by 4pm. Call at approximately 10am Monday to see when we might get this taken care of... Was informed that part will need to be ordered soonest. It will be in Thursday. However they will not schedule the next service call until part is in hand. (I later found the part on Amazon Prime.) Possibly Friday maybe Monday before they might be out again... Temperatures have been in the lower 20s to the upper 30s... We ask if there is any possibility of overnighting the part for an additional fee? They wanted $55 for expedited shipping and said it would be in on Wednesday and once it arrives they will set up the service call.

It is still Monday morning. Reminder we have had no heat since last Wednesday. We asked if it is expedited... Will we get someone out this week. They said can’t guarantee that they will have any technicians available... We were informed that if it is an emergency we can try to get a HVAC company of our choosing to fix it. This is ridiculous. It’s a furnace in February. Not a washer or dryer, not a dishwasher or stove. They made sure to charge our credit card immediately for this claim.

It seems to me that this company has no interest in their customer's safety. What is a home warranty for? Peace of mind that if something breaks it’s covered. You better pray it’s not an emergency! We are looking at 10-14 days without heat if the ten minute techs diagnosed the problem correctly! The part could have been ordered last Friday. They go out of their way to drag out every step of the process. They already have your $$$ then tell you if you want it done in a timely manner call someone else! Seems criminal to treat people this way. I feel this company needs to be held to a much higher level. Customer assistance should not be an additional option after all they already paid for it! Not that it should make any difference, I am a medically retired disabled veteran and live on a strict budget as you all are budgeting to your needs. Service that has been paid for should not come with conditions!

Having a warranty is absolutely necessary for this house given that it was built in 2004. I've had things go wrong just because of the age of the house but all of my experiences with American Home Shield's contractors have been very good.

Normally, I go online and open up a claim and then I immediately get confirmation of my claim and that the contractor has received it. Thereafter, I start getting text messages from them within 10 minutes. When they come out, they inform me every step of the way what the issue was. They then communicate with American Home Shield and back with their home office. Most recently, Able Mechanical worked on the hot water tank and they did a good job. So far, I have recommended American Home Shield a number of times.

Updated on 02/21/2019: I made a complaint here about how horrible the customer service is of this company. I have even spoken with two people in the executive office who were not willing to do anything to help my situation. I was given a washer that was nowhere equivalent to the one I had and ever since I got this washer it has been nothing but problems. Since early November my washer has been out of order for 5 weeks. They refuse to replace it. The company responded to my comment and said I would be contacted personally and NEVER WAS!! I also made a complaint on their Facebook page and my comment was deleted and I was blocked from making further comments!

Original Review: I have been with the company for 2 years or so. I have had so many problems with my washer that they keep trying to repair. It has been a nightmare. I had a high end washer that they replaced with another washer that was about half the price which is supposed to be equivalent. Not even a year after having the replacement washer it started having problems. I am now going on a third time for a repairman to come out and repair it. Why? I don't know as obviously its a lemon machine. I have had to spend countless hours at other places to do my laundry as we are a household of four. I have lost income. This company does not care and I have to resort to a arbitration complaint.

There was little to no heat coming out of our furnace and we filed a claim online to American Home Shield. It was the Saturday going into Christmas then and so it took a couple of days before someone contacted us to say when somebody would come out. A contractor came out and he took a look at the furnace from a crack in the manifold. The furnace was turning on and off every 10 minutes because of the safety feature and he said that we needed a new furnace. So, a new one came. He had to come back and we had to work around a tenant to get out of the house but he worked around our schedules. He was great to work with. The whole repair took two weeks and so far, the replacement furnace has been good. We have recommended American Home Shield to people.

There was a problem with the drainage at one of my properties. Any time the tenant uses any of the toilets or the washing machine or dishwasher, the water would back up into the shower drain. They said it prevented them from using any of the appliances or the toilets and that was a critical thing. The claims process with AHS worked well. I usually either go online or make a phone call to get a service provider assigned and take care of the work. Service Mechanical of Tidewater came out for the claim and they described the problem well and what it could take to completely resolve the issue, so that was helpful. I've been with AHS for almost 10 years now and even though certain things are not covered, I am happy with them.

American Home Shield has been excellent. They usually notify me with an email, but then once it’s in the hands of the vendor, sometimes it feels like it goes into Never Never Land. Some would contact me right away, but sometimes, I have to call the vendor myself. The vendors should be proactive in letting us know that they’ve received our claim. Nevertheless, all the contractors have been good except for the dishwasher people. They were terrible. They tried to fix the dishwasher five times until American Home Shield said they're just gonna replace dishwasher which AHS should've done sooner.

Recently, I submitted a claim for the lower basement sewage pump with AHS. The toilet water wasn’t going down and the little tank in the ground that the sewage is in was coming up and starting to seep out. The pump wasn't working and the cord itself was getting hot. The contractor was out right away. They explained the process and did their due diligence. They documented everything, double-checked everything and planned the next step. They’ve been great. AHS has saved me thousands and I would give them 5+++ stars. I’ve given their website and phone number already to a thousand people and told others that they should look into American Home Shield.

There was some error light code on our dishwasher and being a first-time homeowner, we wanna try to do something ourselves, we just didn’t have the time. We read online that there was water getting somewhere like it wasn’t supposed to be. I filed the claim on the American Home Shield app. We got a call wanting to set up an appointment and we set it for that day, and the gentleman from Coastline Appliance, LLC came out. He looked at it, figured out what it was relatively quickly then he said that he had to order a part and he would come out as soon as it’s ready. The part came in a couple of days later then a guy came and did the work. He was very nice, professional, came and fixed it in.

We hate the dishwasher, but it came with the house and we were debating whether or not we should fix it or we should just buy a new one outright. But we’re saving up for it, so we just kept on with our current trajectory and we'd just get one in a couple of months. I was happy that it was able to be fixed and we haven't had anything new crop up. Overall, we will recommend AHS. My sister also has a warranty through them as well.

There was a very loud, vibration type, rattling noise in the wall where the heater unit is. I filed a claim online and the process went very well. It was also easy to do it online to avoid the whole calling and waiting for someone to assist me. Within less than an hour after I did it, they were already calling me back to schedule an appointment. The only thing I didn’t like was that I made the claim on a Friday and the guy who set the appointment for me said that the technician would be calling me on Sunday evening to give me a timeframe for Monday but I never got a call. So on Monday morning when the technician called for a timeframe, I told him that I didn’t get a timeframe the night before and I was at work at that time. But he actually worked it out with me so that I could make it home on time for him to be there.

A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was the contractor and we had a very good interaction. Once I described what the heater unit was doing and I turned it on and he got to hear it, he told me the reason why it was getting the vibration in the wall. He explained that it was actually normal with the sound that it was making and there wasn't a need for any work to be done to it. I've been with American Home Shield for a month now and I got their warranty because they cover more items than some other providers. Overall, it was a great experience.

Our washing machine started making a totally weird noise and it had an awful smell. We turned it off and stopped, and we called American Home Shield. The reps wanted to get to the root of what was wrong and they wanted to figure out why I was calling and wanted to make sure that they were directing me to the right person. They reached out to me within 24 hours and they scheduled something with me within two days. They sent United Appliance Services over to come by and the tech did a diagnostic on the machine. Before I even described what happened, he had an idea of what problem was going on, so he was obviously knowledgeable. He determined that there was some motor and a belt that were fried or old or worn. He ordered the part and three to five business days later, he came back with the part and fixed the machine in a couple of hours, and it has been working great since then.

We bought the house back in 2006 and when I paid the inspector, I wanted to be there. The guy told me that my heating units were 10 years old. He said they were contractor grade and made to last 15 years. He said that if he were me, he would get a home warranty. I signed up for American Home Shield and I never let it lapse because I think it's beneficial to have it. I've never had any bad experience with it in 12 years. If someone has determined that they need to get a home warranty, American Home Shield is what I would recommend.

My most recent claim was on an electric heat pump that was basically going to emergency heat all the time. It was frosting up the outside portion of the unit that's outside the house, which was running continuously. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. My wife and I are old, and we prefer to use the phone versus the computer. The representatives there are great.

Once I had filed the claim, A&A Heating and Cooling came out in three hours. But once they figured out what was wrong with it, they couldn't get the part immediately. They had to wait a couple of days for the part to come. Plus the technician said he couldn't do it. It was pouring rain here and the unit sits outside. The diagnosis was that it had a defrost board that runs it through a defrost cycle every so many hours and that the defrost board was out. But after a couple of days, they got the part and put it on, and it seems to be working okay. A&A Heating and Cooling did a good job. Sometimes, some contractors kinda look fly-by-night. But the guys from A&A Heating and Cooling did not. They came in a company van and were dressed neatly and respectably. They were respectful and professional in how they handled my claim. I was very satisfied with them.

We have a toilet upstairs that leaked through the ceiling. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and had a great experience with their customer service rep. However, it was on a Friday night and they would respond within 24 business hours. The following Monday was Patriot's Day so it was Tuesday before we could get anybody. Still, they responded on the first business day.

The guy who came out was great. He explained how things are gonna happen. My husband is 100% disabled, and we haven’t been using that bathroom upstairs. So, the grout did get dried out from non-use and then the water formed around the outside of it. It then started going down through the ceiling in the bathroom below. The plumber was very sweet and I don't always find that in a plumber. Now, AHS's contractor has fixed the plumbing part and they have told us that they've assigned us to another contractor to do the drywall.

Going through American Home Shield's office is a bit cumbersome. When I get someone on the phone, I tend to not feel like I'm getting good service. But If I could handle it all via the computer, then it works fine. We've used AHS only three times, and overall, the contractors tend to not look professional, like the guy that did the AC tune-up. There was no company name on his truck and he did not have a uniform. Then he said his boss came by to see the unit. They stayed out at the truck and talked for 45 minutes. We wanted him to finish the job and leave so we could get on with our business so lack of professionalism would be the biggest issue. Also, I'm not sure at this point if we've broken even on what we've paid versus having savings.

I had a plumbing issue recently that Sigmond Plumbing came out for. They called it a lazy flush. The first guy was late getting here and he did not do anything to help it so I called back to the contractor and filed with AHS as well. It was a Saturday and I wanted to be sure I could get someone before they closed. Then the owner of the contracting company came at 7 o’clock on a Saturday night so I appreciated that. That was unusually good service. He addressed the problem and he was able to resolve it.

We have an older house. We had leaky faucets and toilets. Some were running and I couldn't put them on because the flushing apparatus didn't work. We also had a leaking water heater. To submit claims, we generally call and speak to AHS. We have had a few difficulties from time to time, mostly being that it sometimes takes a while for someone to get to us.

Before we got the last contractor, Plumb Rite, AHS sent out another company which was 1st Call Plumbing and I ended up not having them do the job. AHS needs to get rid of them. The plumber came at the limit of his scheduled time. The first time, it was between 2:00 to 5:00 and he came really late. He walked around and looked at everything. His whole manner was lackadaisical and didn't seem to care. He explained that the new water heater was not gonna be the same size and he had to cut the pipes to redo them.

I contacted AHS and was told that there was a certain amount of work that had to be done and I had to pay for it. The plumber was supposed to come. I was scheduled for between 2:00 and 5:00. By 2:30, I hadn't heard from him, so I called him. He said that he couldn't get here because he was doing other stuff. I tried to be understanding and asked if could come the following day. He said no and that he has other people scheduled. I said, “Excuse me? You didn't come to me during my scheduled time and now, you’re accepting other schedules that are pushing me back?” I was mad. I called their office and of course, they’re the kind of office that doesn't have a person that answers. I could only leave a message.

I left several messages and I was quite irate. I called AHS and let them know what was going on. The lady called me back and said to call the plumber because he was waiting to hear from me if he could come tonight. I called him and he said that they were not coming out and doing the job at all. Apparently, a lot of the work Plumb Rite does is to fix 1st Call’s errors. Still, we had no real major problems. Plumb Rite of East Tennessee was very nice, easy to deal with, and friendly. The contractor, Jeremy, was polite and very nice too. They also have a nice lady that always answers the phone.

I was told by another heating and AC company that I had a gas leak and they showed me pictures of it. I guess they had sprayed something on my pipe showing that bubbles had shown up and said that it was clearly a gas leak. They said they couldn't fix it and they turned my gas off because they don't need an explosion in my house. They also said that I couldn't continue with the unit. So, we were going into 30 degrees in my whole upstairs because the gas is off and we didn't have any heat there. My entire unit upstairs is where my children slept in so I got them downstairs and I had electric heaters going to keep them warm. I then contacted American Home Shield and they sent Air Technical out.

When the Air Technical guy came out the next day, it wasn't what the other company said. He said that the unit just needed to be tightened down. I also went up to the attic and he showed me everything. He sprayed everywhere and said that if there was gas, then we would see bubbles. But we saw nothing and then I knew what I was looking for. He told me that the unit might be old but they're still working and so he turned the gas back on. Before he left, he told me that I could turn the heat back on and that would be fine. I've been with the other company for about 5 years and I was really disappointed they did that to me. They've been trying to get me to get rid of my unit for 3 years now but what they did the last time was scary. Then from the time Air Technical came out, we've been perfect. I was also up at the attic the other night checking and making sure I didn't smell anything funky, and we're good.

But in terms of submitting the claim, it's easier to call than to do it on the computer. I have trouble when there's a lot of stuff on the computer and I'm trying to find the right area to go to. But I did it. So that means that for most people, it's probably very easy.

I made the claim Friday afternoon and we had a scheduled appointment over the weekend. However, the contractor waited until Monday which was fine with us. When he came, he took care of it and did a good job. It was efficient and he knocked it out quickly. His service was top of the line. He was prompt, well-groomed and professional. He was also intelligent and courteous. American Home Shield did great and we are doing fine now.

There was a problem with the heat pump on our pool and we submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. We have an automatic feeder that feeds chemicals into our pool. It does it all itself and we don’t have to do anything. We put the chemicals in the tube and when it gets down below a certain point, we put water in. It keeps track of everything and we don’t have to worry about it. The guy that AHS sent out told us that this feeder broke because it was over chlorinated. However, this was impossible when it was set for automatic chlorination. They sent the second guy out and I’m like, “No way.” We looked up the brand for this heat pump and it seemed that two years is the max you can get out of the heat pumps which is the problem that this heat pump has. It was not due to over chlorination but AHS was not gonna cover it because they were saying that it was over chlorinated.

We have been waiting for ten days for AHS to get in contact with us but we had to call them because we hadn't heard anything. They told us that we would be getting a letter in the mail that they were not gonna cover it. They were very rude and told me that they were not gonna cover it because of the chemical damage. So, I asked why I had to call them four days later to get the answer. If they were gonna deny me, a courtesy call would've been nice instead of sending a letter in the mail. It was unacceptable and we still haven't gotten the letter in the mail. AHS did not care that they took my $125 and they did not care that I pay them the $80 a month for the policy. All they said was that it was not normal wear and tear and that they were not covering it. We’ve had American Home Shield for 10 years now for that house. For the most part, they’ve been great, but this time, it was absolutely, totally bad customer service.

We've had two claims with American Home Shield. One had to do with an air conditioning system problem and the other had to do with a plumbing problem. I call AHS whenever I submit claims because I have a specific service provider in mind for those kinds of calls that knows our property and that we’ve worked with for years through AHS. I always check with whoever the representative is at AHS if that provider is still on their list of providers, and if that’s the one, I definitely wanna have the thing assigned to us no matter how long it takes for the assignment.

A1 Quality Care is the only one I would ever wanna deal with when it comes to air conditioning units and furnaces. They are fantastic and professional. The same thing goes with Kaiser Plumbing. We’ve worked with Ed for a number of years on a lot of different problems. We even call him if AHS doesn’t cover a particular thing. He is also very professional and very thorough. I wouldn’t wanna deal with anybody else. We’re very pleased with the coverage we have for the price that we pay. We are in the process of buying a new home that is being built for us and once the builder’s warranty is gone, we will sign up again with AHS. I recommend this company.

He knew exactly what was going on. He temporarily resolved the initial issue which uncovered another issue that was already there. He had to fix it too. I have a heat pump, and it would work on emergency mode but not on regular mode because he believed there was a short within the unit. However, it was too cold to diagnose that at the time. After he had it run on an emergency mode, it wouldn't shut off so there was also a thermostat issue. He was able to replace the thermostat eventually and fix the short in the furnace. He had to come three times but everything is working fine now.

They reported back to AHS to tell them what the issue was, and the repair was approved. The plumbing company came back out to fix it. They would need to get the parts, regardless, but it would have been better if they could submit right then and it’d be approved within that same day versus me having to take off work for two days. Doing it online was really easy. I didn't have to do much but click things, and so it was like I didn't have to talk to anyone. I just selected plumbing and then they contacted K&S Plumbing who then contacted me to set up a time. They said that they were gonna come out to look at the pipes. They gave me available times when they could come, I told them what worked for me and they sent me a text and an email confirming the time. They called me 20 to 30 minutes before when they were on their way to let me know that they were coming. It was a four-hour window. I work and they gave me a heads-up so I can head home early.

K&S Plumbing came during the week, and they figured out the problem. They had to cut into the wall, but they found the leaky pipe and then they had to come back two days later with the part to fix it because they didn't have the part the first time. I was really happy with what they did, but I wish that my wall could be fixed because it still has a hole in it from when the company had to cut into it. It seems like I'm gonna have to figure out a way to fix that on my own. But other than that, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield.

It is still hit or miss. Contractors at times have to jump through hoops to get contract covered items paid for. More importantly, DON'T submit too many claims for the covered property for which you're paying. No one can predict what will go wrong however if AHS deems you've had too many service requests THEY WILL REFUSE TO RENEW YOUR CONTRACT. No explanation. Just a form letter saying you won't be renewed!!! Really? I could have sworn that I purchased this plan to be safe from unforeseen repair costs.

When our water heater had stopped working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone wherein the process was not difficult to get started, considering that we discovered the problem Sunday morning. A plumber was sent out and he came on Monday. He determined that the issue was not within the plumbing structure, but it was actually the power cord from the water heater. The heater used a three-pronged plug to plug into the wall, and the problem was where the socket and the plug came together. So, he said he couldn't fix it. He reported back to AHS and they sent out the electrician, who came on Tuesday and fixed the water heater.

AHS was prompt in getting out the first contractor, who turned out to be not the right one through nobody's fault. The obvious first choice for a water heater problem was a plumber, and then the electrician was lined up. The interaction with the electrician were all very positive. He said that he was surprised to see that the electrical connection that was used was a plug, instead of a hard-wired appliance. He wasn't sure he had exactly what he needed to fix it, but he was able to fabricate something. He had the right cord and he changed it into a hard-wired solution rather than a three-pronged plug. I was very happy about that, and since the repair, the water heater has been working fine.

They called me and came immediately, and they were able to complete the repair on the same day. Recently, the refrigerator was making a loud, weird noise and I submitted a claim. The tech was on time and did a good job. He replaced the part that was making a noise. The performance of the refrigerator has been good and there has been no noise since the repair. But I had problem before with the reps because of the water heater for the other house that we have. There was a little bit of chaos with that one, but we sorted it out. This time, though, it was very good dealing with the reps.

We had two heating units that weren’t working. They weren’t even coming on. We filed our claim with American Home Shield and they sent out Roy Mechanical. They have been exceptional and we’ve been very pleased. We had an issue with the motherboard on the unit, and the tech came and determined what needed to be done and was very courteous. So, I actually requested him when I made the call about the two units that weren’t functioning. My way of filing claims to American Home Shield depends on the nature of the problem. I’ll go online and do a service request, or sometimes, I’ll call them like in the case when there were two units. Online, you can only really indicate one issue. So, I wanted to make sure they were aware that there were two units.

My latest claim is still in the authorization process. There were two parts needed. And so, they were trying to determine whether they would cover both parts for both units and then any of the duct work, electrical, and those kinds of things that needed to go along with it. AHS approved the claim, and then they came back and decided they weren’t gonna do both. They decided that the home may be too big. They had checked it out on Zillow, and it was more than 10,000 square feet on the real estate site. So, I had to send them the auditor’s formal appraisal and the auditor’s property fact sheet to show that it was not that large of a house. So, they reinstated the coverage, so we’re back in the authorization process. Normally, they’re very responsive and we’ve been very pleased so far. It just took up some time, and they probably needed to do due diligence. But they should have probably used the auditor's official square footage and not some real estate site.

We keep having this problem of a stopped up toilet though and somebody needs to do something to get the problem fixed rather than us having to deal with a stopped up toilet. We just had it fixed last week and it's stopped up again. This has been going on for about two years. But, other than that, American Home Shield’s service is fine. They’ve been nothing but nice.

Also, the icemaker would not go through the dispenser there on the door, we had to open the drawer for the freezer to get ice on it. I talked on the phone with somebody. So, they came out and the guy was very professional and nice. We have animals in the house and they didn’t bother him at all, with him being around. He rather seemed to enjoy them. I'd have him here again in a heartbeat. He was wonderful, and he knew what he was doing, which was really good. He identified the issue and ordered parts. Once the parts came in, they sent him back out and he fixed it and that was great.

A pipe from the kitchen to the sewer was full of grease, but not totally clogged. It got gunk in it, but water could still go through it. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and they sent Ally Plumbing out. When the plumber came to my house, he said that it wasn’t covered since it wasn’t completely clogged up. He also said that they could fix it for me, so I told him to go ahead. I had to pay the plumber the full price plus the $75 that American Home Shield charged to my credit card just to register a claim. My gripe was with paying the $75 because AHS did not cover the problem. And I didn’t understand that I could call them to see if the problem I was having was covered because I got a printout of the contract, but it wasn’t very clear.

On the same week as the plumbing claim, there was also the garage door. On the printed contract, it said that the spring of garage doors was covered but when the guy sent by American Home Shield got here, he said that the springs aren’t broken. So I found out that only if the springs were broken would AHS cover it, but they were just old and tired and they weren’t strong enough to lift the door. I really didn’t know what the problem was until I had a repairman come. All I knew was the garage door only went up three feet and then it wouldn’t go any further.

I also had three other AHS-repaired issues and they were covered. But now I’ve learned that if I have another problem, I have to call the American Home Shield number and explain the problem as far as I understand it and find out if I should pursue with them or just call somebody on my own. Also, the people I talked with over at AHS have a foreign accent and they sometimes talk fast, so I have to tell them to say it again slowly. It would be nice if they do have English as the second language speakers, if they just talk more slowly and enunciate. Overall, when something’s covered, American Home Shield is great. But finding out if something is covered or not is confusing.

Since then, there has been no water leak or anything at all on the heater. It seems like it has been working better than it did before.

My microwave and dryer went at the same time. Our microwave, every time you open up the door, it just came on without having to push any buttons. When I open up the door, it'd just start cooking. And if I put something in and shut the door, it'd go off. But when I push the buttons and then hit start, it starts. My wife called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent us an email with Bell's Appliance on it within 48 hours. Bell's Appliance contacted us and then, we set time for them to come out and they came within a week. We just put in a request to call 30 minutes out to make sure somebody was here or somebody was able to get here. Once they got here, they were very professional. They assessed the issue and they went and did their thing. They let us know what their report was on what they saw. And then, we just went from there.

When they took the microwave apart, the old motherboard was fried. A replacement was required at that point and it took almost a week before we got the unit because we went on a little vacation. So far, we’re very satisfied with AHS. In fact, my whole family has AHS. We love it. It’s just like insurance. You’re paying and you don’t really need it. But when you need it, it works out for you. We were smelling gas coming from the furnace and there was also a leak. I used American Home Shield's online service to file a claim. It was simple except it's confusing when you own multiple properties such as myself. When you're trying to submit a claim for the first time, it's set to a default location. And so, if you need to submit a new claim instead of there being a dropdown that you can select other properties and continue on, you have to back out and then start all over. So, it's not convenient in that way. If you have just one property, it's straightforward. Also, if you're filing for the first time, then it's not really that great of an experience because it takes you to an area of the site where you would have had previous claims and you haven't set up an initial claim first.

The contractors were good. They were professional and they provided explanation such that the leak was actually coming from the humidifier which isn't covered under the warranty, but they did tell me what the issue was and how I could even do it myself which was good because that saved me some money. American Home Shield has a long list of what's covered, but it is very generic. I'm not a professional in the home improvement industry. I'm a basic Do-It-Yourselfer. And when it came time for addressing the issue with the furnace, I just see a huge furnace. But I don’t know that the humidifier which is attached to the furnace is something that they didn’t cover. I just see it as one unit. So, if there's a way to spell out these sort of specifics, it would be good. Other than that, I would recommend AHS.

AHS' usually very prompt when I call in for a claim. They would ask us for the account number and they would get the job done. When we called for the heating in my living room, it happened on the coldest weekend. But by that Monday, Sean Electric called us, so they took care of it right away. The technician was very good, efficient, neat and friendly. He looked at the baseboard heating and the radiators were burned out. He knew what he had to do to correct the problem and was very careful not to damage anything in the house. I have parqueted floors and wooden walls so he just didn’t rip anything off.

My husband had labeled all the circuits in the house so when the technician went down, he knew which circuits to shut off so he could work on the electrical. However, one radiator's wiring was a little hard to figure out ‘cause not anything that he was doing was the way they did it in the house originally. It took quite a while for him to repair the issue but he fixed it and did a good job.

I've been using American Home Shield for 18 years and I’m very satisfied with them. When people say that I'm paying that much money for the year and I don’t use it, I say it doesn’t matter because when there are unexpected breakages, I have to get somebody on the outside. I could pay the co-pay, but where am I gonna get $500 to pay people just to come in and look at it? So having a warranty is very valuable. It’s also good for people starting out and even people that aren’t that sure to have it, unless you’re rich.

Most other home warranty companies say that they cover things but they don't. They try to find loopholes, but American Home Shield doesn't. So far, I only had one claim and AHS sent out an AC company that has negative reviews. They were a terrible company.

This company's customer service rep screamed and cursed. And typically, they go to the house and evaluate and then call for payment. They told me that and I said, "Okay." But then, the tenant called and said that they left after the tenant took off work. So I called the company back and told them to please go back, and that we'll pay them but they didn't. They will never be allowed on our property again and we'll never work with that company. But when I let AHS know about it, they followed up with a great company. I’ve done two things with them, which both have been fine from their end, and I paid the $75 over the phone, so I didn't wait until after the people had come. And, that has worked out very well. The first claim I had was for the water heater. I noticed that when the plumbing company came out, they had certain repairs they had to call American Home Sheild to get authorization. Then, they ended up coming out three times for the water heater before they got the parts. Every time they came out though, they were very polite. American Home Shield then evidently felt it could be repaired and it didn't have to be replaced. The plumbing company did a great job and I was very pleased with them.

The other claim I had was for the toilet as it was leaking water and I didn’t wanna run up the water bill. I figured they had to replace a part of the toilet, but it turned out they didn’t. Marino Plumbing came out and they were very good, friendly and professional. They said that I needed to buy a seal that goes on the bottom and it would stop the water from leaking. So, they didn’t actually fix it because they didn’t have a seal with them. I paid the $75 for a toilet fix and nothing was done, but I understand that. The only complaint is to myself. I should’ve figured out that maybe it’s some kind of seal. I can go get it myself without calling American Home Shield. Overall, I've had good experience with this warranty company. I like submitting a claim online. The computer is a lot more concise and easier to use. American Home Shield also has a direct contact via the computer. Sometimes, when I'm trying to call somebody over the phone, either the line is busy or no one is there. But I've never had a problem with any of the techs who come over. They're all very professional and friendly. I've been very pleased. We've had the techs out for the hot water heater, the dishwasher, the air conditioner compressor, toilets and the dishwasher in the kitchen, and they’ve always done extremely a good job for us. We could talk to them and we don’t get the feeling like they're holier-than-thou.

The fella who came for the toilets had to replace both of those pieces in there, and then he also had to level the toilet because it was kind of rocking. However, I was a little surprised that American Home Shield was offering to put up our HD TVs on the wall for $100. But that was no big deal. We can do the same thing with Best Buy. They do the same thing at the same price. AHS does a good job as long as they stay in their area of professionalism. But they start branching out, and sometimes it doesn’t always work best for somebody. Even so, I'm very impressed with the type of work they do.

The contractor who came out to do the service was from Burrows and Company and he was very good. They have to order some parts and he said it takes a week or two weeks. I'm still waiting for someone to come back and do the repairs.

I've had American Home Shield for over 20 years but their service is getting down every day. They used to be very good, but not anymore. When I had a hole in my sink and I called them, the guy who picked up the phone could not speak proper English. I told him not to send any plumber if AHS wouldn't replace or fix the bathroom. The AHS rep said that it is covered, but when the plumber came, he said that they don’t cover it. The rep should have said right away that they don't cover it when I asked, so then I could have hired somebody else. I have two houses with AHS. Why am I paying if nothing is covered? Also, it's always very hard to reach them. I was on the phone for a whole 90 minutes. I'm not gonna use AHS. I already cancelled mine and I still have one for my personal home. I want to cancel that too.

My oven wasn’t working. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and that process was easy. The contractor sent by AHS had to replace the control panel. The tech came very quickly the first time, but it took him a while to get the part. He seemed to be very good and knowledgeable, though, about what the problem was and he knew it right away. The oven has been working fine since the repair. A couple of years ago, however, I called AHS about my water heater and they couldn’t send anybody out sooner, so I had to call someone else. Still, everything has been good with AHS.

We have not had any issues whether we call or go online when we submit a claim but my husband did the last one online. It was easier and more convenient, and in about a day or two, we would get a response. If we have any problems, the contractors would call him when they are on their way over. We had a claim with American Home Shield for the ice maker of the refrigerator which wasn't working and for the furnace that was making some noises. We weren't sure if the furnace needed to be replaced or just what was needed to be done. Plus, it had to be cleaned out and a few other things done to it. The contractors did a good job and made sure things were satisfactory. They took care of the issues on the same day. All were done fast and good and we had no problems. Both were taken care of and the ice maker works fine now, so my husband and I are both satisfied. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield through the website as it's more convenient than calling. You don’t have to wait to dial; you just go straight to the web and knock it out. I got a response back the next day and the contractor was ready as soon as possible. But, I ended up doing about a week for my convenience. The guy who came to our house was great. He came in and I talked him through what I had and what the issue was. He did an examination himself and then knocked out the repair. The whole thing was probably within an hour.

When the furnace was just blowing cold air and the house was cold, submitting a claim for it went fine. The contractor who came out was helpful. He came and went upstairs. He checked the furnace out, did a couple of things, and then got the furnace running quickly. It was a very good experience and everything seems to be fine. We've had good experiences and bad experiences with AHS. The furnace was a simple fix. It seems like when it's a simple thing, it goes smoothly. But when there is a major issue then it takes a little time to get it cleared up. We had a dishwasher issue that dragged on for two to three months trying to get that worked out. So, that was a bit frustrating. But all in all, AHS is a good service, and it's easy to use.

The concern I have is that I have a dishwasher that has been repaired four times within two years and a different tech keeps replacing the same part. According to AHS policy, they will continue this process as long as the tech says the appliance is repairable regardless of the number of times the appliance has been repaired. Each time I submit a request for service for this dishwasher, it costs me a day of work, $75 for the service, and in one instance a rude tech.

As a customer, you would think that AHS would consider the number of times that an appliance has been repaired and try to determine the root cause of the problem. But according to a supervisor in Memphis, TN, continuing to send a tech makes good business sense for the company instead of exploring other options. Also, according to the supervisor, there is no way to write a letter to Corporate HQs. You would think that the leaders in the Corporate HQs would want to get feedback from their customers.

I have a refrigerator that clearly is old and beyond repair. However, they keep sending a technician out to piece the parts back together, causing me much time off work for each time they had to come out. So far we on our 3rd try within 4 months, which for me is 8 hours of work, 24 hours of lost wages. The other problem with this company is the long wait time to speak to someone. Each time I call, I am on hold for at least 30 minutes waiting for customer service, and another 40 plus minutes if you want to talk to a supervisor to resolve the issue. I recommend don't waste your time with this company, they have gone downhill and they no longer care about their customers.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for a main sewer line clog on Monday. The initial plumber sent by AHS came out on Tuesday but could not clear the line clog and said someone else would need to be sent out. He left the cap off of the access port in the garage so sewage backed up into my garage, which I had to clean up. The second plumber did not come out until Wednesday afternoon. He also could not clear the clog and said the line needed to be hydro jetted and he did not have the proper equipment. He left spilled sewage around the access port in the garage when he left.

I had to call AHS on Thursday since no one had gotten back to me. The rep advised that the plumber reported that the clog was 100+ feet out and therefore AHS was denying my claim, as this was outside the coverage distance. I had to pay my own plumber who cleared the clog in 30 minutes. He advised that the main city line is only 94 feet from the access port inside the garage, so there is no way the clog was 100+ and outside the coverage distance. I contacted AHS and asked to speak with a supervisor to request reimbursement since the claim should have been covered. I was on hold 30 minutes then disconnected. I called back and advised I was disconnected and placed on hold another 30 minutes and then disconnected AGAIN.

I called back a third time and spoke to a rep and explained my issue. I finally got a supervisor on the line who advised that since the AHS plumber reported the clog was 100+ feet out, they would not reimburse. He did not care that the main city line is only 94 feet out so the claim should have been honored. I will be taking the company through arbitration, which is a requirement per the service contract. Very dissatisfied customer.

This is a simple repair of a dryer. Dryer takes too long to dry (1.5 hours for a couple of towels). Dryer service contractor came said the hose was crimped and fixed it, cleaned out lint trapped from hose and inside dryer. They completed their part of the job and stated still need another type of contractor to come out that can blow out vent from dryer to outside to complete the job and get dryer working properly. Pretty simple! This is what he reported back to AHS. Called AHS and they can't find my account. Found my service call but can't do anything with it because they can't find my account. Call back in 4 days. WHAT? I have to wait because their system error.

OK, 3 weeks with no dryer now. 4th call to AHS and now a rep that wants to set up a new ticket with another service call fee. I must have explained this very simple follow up 10 times... This is the original problem just needs 2 types of contractors to complete the repair. The rep (now on the phone for 45 minutes) does not get it and keeps repeating the same wrong statements over and over. Keeps saying "I'll set up a new ticket." I get an email and it's a whole new work order with the same damn service contractor that's been here twice. OMG!

I asked for a supervisor about 15 times. I've not been on the phone over an hour. Same rep comes back and says "I'm going to set up a repair ticket and send the contractor back." "NOOO! Get me a supervisor." Then he literally says "can you explain the problem again." Are you joking? I explain for the umpteenth time, even use an analogy. You go to the dentist for a toothache, dentist refers you to an oral surgeon to have tooth pulled. It's the same damn tooth but requires to different specialist. Puts me on hold after I have now raised my tone and said "I'm not going to ask again, GET ME A SUPERVISOR." Comes back and asks if he can put in a ticket for a work order. WHAT IS THIS ALTERNATE UNIVERSE? I, for the 20th time demand to speak with a supervisor.

After another 15 min of hold he comes back to say the supervisor is talking to someone so can I hold. I've been on hold again for 30 minutes. Still on hold as I write this. Is there only one freaking supervisor for the entire customer service department. I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW. This company must be outsourcing with completely inexperienced reps, unprofessional and I will never renew my service contract with them. In the meantime, I have no dryer. Paid over $450 for warranty protection. Am getting absolutely ZERO service or resolution. OMG, OMG, OMG. The call was just disconnected!

My sump pump broke on New Year's Eve after a technician previously came out and "fixed" it. My basement was flooded. Needless to say, I had to call and get authorization to have another tech come out on NEW YEAR'S Eve. Was on hold for 55 minutes just to get a rep on the line who told me to call back on January 2 because he couldn't get all the information he needed at that time. Called on January 2 and was told to email my invoice and proof of payment in order to receive reimbursement in 10-14 days. Got a confirmation email but heard nothing after that. I called back on January 21 (on hold 45+ minutes) to get a status and was told that they didn't have any record of receiving my email (even though I received a confirmation email on 1/2).

Sent 2nd email on Jan 21. Called again the following week and was told I had to wait 14-21 days from Jan 21 before I could receive a status update. Now it's February 15. Still no reimbursement and no one in customer service can seem to contact the Accounting department that handles reimbursements. It takes 45+ minutes to get anyone on the phone just to be told that I looks like it's in process. UNACCEPTABLE! I've paid my contract fee twice in the time that I've had to wait for my reimbursement. I really hope someone at AHS will see this review and do something about the Accounting Dept and the extreme wait times for customer service. As a customer, I expect to receive assistance from a CS rep. Instead, I've been told the Account Dept is behind and I have to wait a month or more. NEWS FLASH... I have been waiting that long. AHS tried to send the same contractor out, but after waiting 3 days for an appointment, I asked for a different contractor, who arrived the next day. He ordered the part. A week later I called AHS to determine the status. I was told the part was ordered the previous day, 6 days after the contractor requested it. I was then told it would take another 7-10 business days for the part to get into the contractor's hands. That means I'll be without an oven for nearly one month before someone gets around to fixing it. That is unacceptable.

It appears AHS values their contractors more than customers and this isn't my first encounter with feeling this way. I have been living with no hot water since Sunday. I've have been the initiator with making all the calls back and forth between a long wait on the line with AHS and the answering machine at the contractor’s office. Conclusion the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Why have I made all the calls and still no results as I boil pots of water and see that my account has been deducted for $100 and pray that my pipes will thaw with no further damage.

Afternoon: I have now been told by AHS that once the plumber is finished with his personal affairs, he will take care of me. Did you really have to tell me that?

Evening: Maybe the cold-water week has been a wake-up call. It’s time to move on to another home warranty company. I have experienced and tolerated too many disappointments with my 17-year relationship.

But I had my receipts here and on the recording where it was my bathtub clogged again. He came up first and unclogged it, and it wasn’t unclogged, so he came out again to unclog it.

Also, my sink downstairs was clogged up again on Friday. It was the same sink. So, I called them, and there was that $75 on my bill, and I couldn't request anything. So I paid it with a credit card for them to send somebody out to unclog it. But I haven't heard from anybody yet. And I spoke with the supervisor and several other people about it before I filed the claim. And one said that the plumber had not submitted any paperwork. But the second time then, somebody told me that he heard I said it was a different issue. I said that I’d requested that the first time, but it was the bathtub and the sink. I've been with American Home Shield for about two years now. When I submit my claims to them, I do it online as it's easier and faster. Their customer service is very good. I've also had good interactions with the contractors that they've sent out. With our claim for the washing machine that needed to be repaired, it wasn't decided and I had to call back to see what was going on because I found out that the reason the washing machine was banging and making a sound was that the bearings had to be replaced. So, the contractors coming from American Home Shield had to be contacted back, which nobody did. I had to call American Home Shield to find out that the washing machine was just being replaced.

I called them on the types of washing machine and I’ve come to find out that the brand I was buying wasn’t the same brand. It had been bought out by GE and I was reading a lot of issues with GE washing machines. American Home Shield is also very particular about the brand they offer. They offer only GE, Maytag and a few American-made products which are sub-par. So, I went on my own and bought an LG.

They reimbursed me although it wasn't a full amount because the LG washing machine was more expensive. The reimbursement ended up being about a little more than half for what I paid for. So, we replaced the washing machine, but unfortunately, the faucet coming up to the washing machine was the one that was leaking. Peoples Plumbing came out and then they repaired it. Overall, it's been pretty good with American Home Shield. I have recommended to people to contact them because when things go bad, it's very expensive for homeowners.

In my most recent claim experience, Tom Melton Services was sent because I had water leaking from my ceiling light in my kitchen. I thought that I might've had a broken pipe. But after the gentleman looked around, came upstairs and checked out the bathroom and the lighting downstairs where the leak was, he came to the conclusion that the leak was caused by bad caulking in the tub. He let me know that that tub needed to be re-caulked and that was not something my contract covered as well as not something that he could do. I said, "That's fine," and I was glad to know that it was not something more serious. Everything worked out well.

I usually call American Home Shield to file my claims as I prefer to talk to someone personally. But if I have to wait more than 10 minutes on the phone, I will do it online. The website navigation is very good and I also do it on my phone. I'm not computer savvy and I've never had any problems with it. I've already filed several requests over the last four years. Everyone that I have ever been in contact with who works for American Home Shield has always been professional, polite, and has helped me as well as they were able to, which has always been good. Everyone that has been here, with the exception of one, has been very good. I've always been very pleased with American Home Shield and that's why I continue to use them.

My dishwasher always stinks. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and it was easy and quick. The technician who came out said my dishwasher was fine and it was running well. I'd just have to keep cleaning it. He was even surprised that it was clean. Then he told me that the line from my disposal was not arched enough and I think that's my issue, but I don't want to spend another 75 bucks to have somebody come out and tell me that they can't replace the disposal. Nevertheless, the technician was very helpful and nice. I asked questions and he gave me answers. I've never used the home warranty before, and it's a little intimidating, but I've had a wonderful experience with AHS.

When we first got American Home Shield and our air conditioner wasn’t working, the company they sent kept coming out and putting the wrong parts. Plus, they used generic parts. We were out of air for 30 days. It was very aggravating and a horrible disappointment with AHS. They should make sure they verify the correct parts and equipment.

When the pump went out and we had no water at our house, we had a good experience submitting the claim. And the contractor they sent was very knowledgeable. The contractor came out on a workday and verified the part. Then, they had to wait until Monday to get approval from AHS for the pump, but once that happened we were able to get it repaired. They had to pull the pump out of the well and replace it. I did have to replace the wire though. AHS didn’t cover the wire or the pressure switch. It took four days for everything to be completed.

I had 2 plumbing claims where the first one was in January for a sink clog and the second one was a week or two later for a leak in the drain under the sink. I went online and scheduled the repair. Navigating the American Home Shield website was easy and a contractor was dispatched within 2 days. When the contractor arrived, we had a good interaction and he told me what he was gonna do. He had to cut off a piece on the pipe, make a connection, and then re-plumb. Everything has been operating perfectly since the repair and I didn't have to put a pan under the kitchen sink anymore. I was completely satisfied with both the plumber and American Home Shield.

Right now, having a warranty is about a wash. For what it cost me, I could’ve probably made the repairs I requested. But at the same time, I'm covered in case my furnace breaks which would then be a big repair expense. In general, I'm happy to have American Home Shield insurance and it's been a good experience. I also tell anyone inquiring about getting them that it's a good idea.

When I pulled up American Home Shield online, it came on my phone as file a claim. It went off from my cellphone number and they pulled up everything and asked if it was me. I’m a real estate agent, so I know which companies are notorious for having long phone lines. HSA and American Home Shield both seemed to have long phone lines. They could take up to 45 minutes for somebody to pick up the phone and I didn’t wanna deal with that.

More recently, our furnace wasn’t working. We were in the middle of a cold snap, so it would just keep on running. Even in the summertime, when our AC runs a little too high and it’s 100 degrees, we expect that. Also, when it’s -4, you expect that from the furnace, but it wasn’t kicking back on. It would run, shut off in 15 minutes and then take an hour to reset. So we would have to go up to the thermostat and flick it on and off to force it to run. The motherboard and two of the sensors had gone bad.

The process needed to be really quick and easy for me. AHS asked what the problem was and I told them it was a gas furnace. Within seconds, Hansen Mechanical sent me a text message saying they've been assigned to my case and someone will reach out to me in 24 hours. It was great. The guys who came over said we need a new furnace, and so they went ahead and put the order in, and corrected everything. It just took time and a little bit of patience, and not blaming anybody, other than just straight up problem-solving. They were complete professionals and they didn't make anything up. They weren’t there to add things on. Instead, they told me what they found, what we’ve ordered, and that they'll call me and be back the next day.

AHS's contractor fixed the issues I had, but thereafter, we found out the heat exchanger turned around and remelted everything so we had to call them back. Within 24 hours, I was already emailing them back because the sensors are tripped, and they were not working right. It turned out that the problem was the filter. The guy said we didn’t need a filter since it’s winter and everything’s closed up. So we ran the sensors without a filter. Everything was reset, and that was it.

Updated on 04/06/2019: Proven Professional, the company who had gotten my claim, came out in January and the invoice that came from them has the invoice number and the authorization from American Home Shield. It also says that the water heater located in the crawl space had not been heating water properly. It was taking a while to get hot and they noticed a leak at the water heater. The top was rusted out and the expansion tank was damaged as well. That was on January 21st. After they changed the valves, they told us to call back if it didn't work so it can get replaced. It didn’t work, so on February 19th, I called them back out and they replaced the water heater. I paid for the expansion tank and some valves, which AHS said were covered. Proven Professional tried to act like the expansion tank was not damaged.

I had paid for the expansion tank, so I called the company to get my refund and they said that it was not damaged, and because of it, it didn’t need to be replaced. They refused to give my money back and said that I wanted to get it done so that I can have it new with the other stuff. But I paid to get it done because I was selling my house. I provided the invoices to a lady at AHS who did an investigation. I spoke to a manager at Proven Professional who was very irate and said that they went over everything with me, I agreed to have the service done, and so that was what I paid for and I need to go through AHS.

So, I went back to AHS, and the rep asked if I had any proof where they said that the expansion tank was damaged. I told her that I had my invoices that state that it was damaged and needed to be repaired. She told me to send them to her. When I called Proven Professional, they had their own invoices and they refused to read the invoice that states it was damaged. I sent the invoices to the rep at AHS and she called Proven Professional to ask them the same questions. She also said that they were very rude. They denied everything. When I sent her the invoices, it proved I was telling the truth. She said that AHS was gonna send me a check to cover the service.

The rep at AHS said that she was reporting that company to the escalated claims department because of how they were doing business so that it would be an alert. She was awesome. She did great. She went through everything with me and verified my invoices, but I haven’t received a check from AHS and that was supposed to be done within two weeks. It’s been almost a month now. I also never got my refund from Proven Professional. So then, I would go through my credit card company. AHS was fine. It was the contractor for this that was not right. But I have no interest in doing business with AHS, given by their professionalism with these invoices I have. They contradicted what they’re stating and I paid more than I should have out-of-pocket for something that should have been covered.

Original Review: Water heater is being replaced $690 and is covered under warranty; however, the additional regulated code parts will cost $525.53, which is a denial fee that the warranty does not cover. This is upsetting as having a warranty is to assist homeowner with high costs at time of repair. Yet, to replace the water heater, I'm paying more than I pay for my yearly membership. Not happy!

I contacted AHS about this frustration so they connected me with a different company that was great! So, three out of four good experiences. Jack's Appliances is not just a business. It's all about customer service, and they do a great job.

I keep telling one of my daughters back in New York who owns a condo that she rents out that AHS is worth the $50 a month. I tell her that if something happens, they'll replace it. We've had something that would actually be replaced. At first, I was a bit leery so I called the place that the order was given to, and they'll be out with a new washer, which is good.

SunBelt Electric came and my friend said that the contractor was very responsive. She was very pleased with the service. I had an issue with a dishwasher in the past and that was taken care of as well. I would recommend American Home Shield.

My furnace died and I started filing the claim over the phone, but then I had to go online and confirm. Air Doc Heating & Air Conditioning came out and their service was great. I’ve had problems with my air conditioning in the past 10 years and they’ve done really well. It was wild because I got my new furnace in and we had a cold snap up here in Chicago, and it wasn’t heating up the house. They fixed that. I have a second furnace upstairs that has been functioning okay until the cold snap so now I have to get a new one for upstairs. American Home Shield is okay so far and I have no complaints. I’d recommend them.

There was a leak and I called American Home Shield for a repair. They had sent Sirius and the technician determined the need for a whole new unit. At first, it was just gonna be a dispenser, which was leaking, and then the tech changed it to a whole new unit. It involved waiting for the part to come in. It was initially gonna be a two-week wait and it turned out to be a day or two shorter than the initial timeframe that was given. However, the technician who came out first noted on his work order to just replace the dispenser rather than the whole unit. That did not only caused confusion but a little disappointment too as we had water shooting out of the dispenser as well. To this day, that’s still an issue at hand that we had just been dealing with. But it was something that was supposed to have been replaced also.

When I brought the problem to Sirius’ attention, they told me that I needed to call American Home Shield. AHS told me that I didn’t have the dispenser listed on the initial call. But it was the technician of Sirius who had determined that there was a need for the replacement. And so, when I spoke to the AHS rep, I tried to explain that the determination was made by the expert, which was the technician. And that’s where it was left at. There’s definitely a room for improvement with the communication.

We had a power outage and it put the computer out on my refrigerator. I went on the computer and submitted the claim with American Home Shield, and the process was very easy. The contractor got there that day and he was great. He thoroughly searched the refrigerator and he had to get online because he didn’t know if he had to order a new part, but he was able to fix it without a new part. He went through customer service with Samsung and was able to fix it. He did a fantastic job and we were very pleased. The refrigerator has been working like a charm since the repair.

The heater was blowing out air, but it wasn’t hot. The claims process online was really simple and it took only a few hours for me to get a response. A contractor from Joe Cools was sent out, and he was wonderful. He opened up the unit and he said that it was due to some sort of a fire sensor and that there had been a buildup of carbon on the outside of that which is not uncommon. He detached the small sensor and he ran some sandpaper over it. He then reinstalled it and this thing fired right up.

I got a small lesson on how to do that as he taught me how to do it myself. He said that while he doesn't mind coming out for these kinds of calls, this is the kind of thing that he doesn't want us to have to call them for because it's easy. But if this thing ever really breaks, that's what he'd be here for. That was pretty honest of him. He was a really great guy and he was really professional, and since the repair, the heater has worked like a champ. Joe Cools did a great job.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a stoppage. I submitted it online and it was easy, however, they weren't very quick to get somebody out. The area that they were sending a contractor from was over an hour away. AHS wasn’t pooling anybody locally which we have plenty of plumbers and stuff local. It would’ve been less time if we use somebody locally. But once the contractors were able to come out, it was good. I would still recommend AHS.

I was having issues with my garage door. It wasn’t opening properly, which seems to be due to the capacitor being dead. I wanted someone to come and look at it, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online. It was very straightforward. I selected whatever issue I had and scheduled the appointment. When I submitted my work order, it went to the next site, which was the vendor site. However, after that, there was no clue or notification, which could advise me that the vendor is looking for a timeframe, which I gave. As there was no instruction, I clicked on the next button but it did not go to the next stage. That was slightly confusing. AHS should put a note to advise the consumer that they had just submitted and I that have to wait for their confirmation to move further.

Nevertheless, the service that I received from the guy from Smokey’s Garage Door was professional. I gave him a window of 7:00 to 10:00 in the morning. He gave me a call before coming to my home and gave me a 20-minute window. He came on time. He understood my problem and answered all the questions that I had regarding the garage door opener. He replaced the capacitor as well as the broken one stop bar. So far, everything has been working good.
