I saw that there was no water coming out of the tub in the bathroom upstairs. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and doing it was quite easy using their online site. The plumber who came out was professional. He did whatever he had to do to fix the problem. Since the repair, everything is so good. It's been a great experience.

I feel like I’ve wasted enough time with American Home Shield and our claim isn’t resolved so I wouldn’t recommend them until they fix the problem. When our washing machine stopped working, I went online and submitted the claim. The first contractor called within 48 hours, and they came out. They looked at the washing machine and told us they were ordering parts then they’d be back in two weeks. But they never circled back to us or to American Home Shield. We waited for two and a half weeks, and nothing happened. It took another week to get American Home Shield to send another contractor.
Eddie's Appliance came out as the second contractor and they did fine. They looked at the washer and recommended a replacement. It's been a week and a half since the replacement order was agreed to by American Home Shield, and we’re still waiting. But then, American Home Shield proposed to replace with a model that didn’t have the same features as the model that we have. We replied back to them, told them about it and asked if they could please send us another replacement offer with a comparable washer. But we haven’t heard back from that request. At this point, we’re six weeks without a washer, and we’re not happy. The ball has been in their court since then, and they have not followed through.
Hi, Robin. I definitely understand how inconvenienced you must be without the clothes washer in working order. A member of our Social Media team will contact you directly to assist with a resolution.

I had problems with my mini-split and I did a service claim online. It was easy to navigate through American Home Shield’s website. Then they sent Cutting Edge and it was discovered that I had a Freon leak. They charged it up and they explained to me that if it happens again, they’ll be able to do the testing and then they would continue once I had lost refrigerant again. I was happy with what they did. It’s blowing warm air now in the wintertime and cold air when it’s hot.
I am also glad that American Home Shield sent back the same people as this was the second time I have seen Cutting Edge work on my stuff. It is a good company. I was very happy with the technicians that American Home Shield sends out. They were very professional who did not waste any time. They figured things out and they obviously knew their job. Although every time somebody showed up, I should not have to pay $125. But overall, I had a very good experience with American Home Shield. They are a good company.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and it was very easy. I was pleased with that. They got back with me to get somebody out here within the same day. The contractor was great. They were very helpful and thorough. The first plumber who came was a little concerned that the issue was beyond his capability, so they sent someone else that was a little bit more knowledgeable, which I was totally fine with. Before they cut walls, I’d rather have someone who would really be able to address the issue. And then when they finally identified the issue, the fix was timely and everything went well.
The only challenge that I had was they didn’t wanna cover the claim initially. The plumber did great. American Home Shield got them out there timely, and I felt they had a reputable company that they sent. But they initially denied. I don’t know if it was all or portion of the claim because they said it was type modification because it was a different material type, but they’re no longer using the old type that was there. So, I had to go back to the plumber and then the plumber had to talk to them to get it resolved. And then they eventually said, “Okay, yes, we’ll cover it.” But it did take a bit of pushback, which I understand, so I had to deal with it back and forth. But it was all resolved in the end.

I had to have a plumber come and went online to submit the claim with American Home Shield. When I had to make a change in the number of pipes I had to have fixed, I called AHS and the process of making the change was very simplified. AHS sent out Allstate Plumbing Colorado and I was very pleased with that. The plumber has been here before and he’s been very good. He’s very knowledgeable and professional and he's right on time. I am pleased with the service and I don’t have any leaks anymore.

I had a dripping faucet and American Home Shield sent a plumber out. The first plumber came and looked at it, and he told me there would be a $200 extra charge for access, which I okayed. He was gonna fix the faucet in the kitchen and in the tub. He came back on his second visit, and he fixed the faucet in the kitchen. Then he went to do the one in the tub, and he said he had changed his mind and it was gonna be $800. I said no because the deal was $200 for doing both. I then called American Home Shield, and I told them of what happened. This took forever. I must have called them 25 times to try to get this resolved. Finally, they sent out a second plumber to take a look at the tub. There was nothing wrong with the plumbing nor with the cartridges or the valves. Everything was fine. The first plumber was a liar and a thief but the second plumber was an honest man, and he replaced the broken handle for $10.
AHS is a horrible company. To get them to come out and fix something is very difficult. They're very quick to answer your phones when they're asking you to buy their products. But when you're trying to collect on their product and enforce the provisions of the insurance contract that you bought, they're very slow to respond, especially if it escalates like this one did with me. It was a nightmare to try to get somebody to deal with, and then you'd talk to a different person every time. I probably talked to eight different people, escalated it a number of times up to so-called managers. They also looked through the fine print to try to get out of doing stuff too.
This is the second time I bought their product. We bought their product on the other house that we had before this house, and we paid the extra coverage to have the heater coverage for the swimming pool. The heater failed but when the contractor came out, they did a Mickey Mouse repair job to make it last a couple more months until the warranty expired. Sure enough, the warranty expired and the heater broke again. I called a person to come out and they looked at the job that the prior people had done and said this was just a substandard quick repair to try to avoid having to replace the whole heater. So I had to go buy a whole heater because AHS cheated me by trying to do substandard repairs rather than replace it when they should have replaced it.
AHS has a horrible rating. I'm surprised they're still on business. If you go online and look at Yelp, there are hundreds of people who've had similar experiences with mine. The people at AHS are crooked as heck and they're dishonest people. They also avoided me extensively. I probably spent, without exaggeration, at least 10 hours on the phone trying to get them to fix the things that they should under their so-called warranty. They have their first-level people who you talk to on the phone and they are ignorant. They don’t know anything about plumbing, heating, or anything at all. But AHS gives them a script that they’ll say, “Oh, no. That’s not covered under Section 4F or J3.” And you'll look up J3 and say, “It absolutely is.” You'll have to correct them because they play a game telling you it's not covered. They're scammers.

The thermostat and one of the solenoids were bad. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for those and the reps were great. They sent a guy and he was super. He came on time the next day and checked the inside and the outside unit. He knew exactly what he was doing and he told me right away what was wrong. He had the parts and he was able to make the repairs that day. He did a really good job, and everything has been working well since the repair. American Home Shield has been excellent and I'm glad I got them.

I didn’t use my heater throughout the year and last year, we had a mild winter. I tried to put my heater on and it wasn’t working at all. I logged into the internet and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they responded immediately. AHS said that the contractor would contact me within 24 hours and they were within the time limit. I got a call back from AAA setting up an appointment and we got it done.
When I bought the home back in '15, the contractor put an AC that was made for up north because it has an outside defroster and they bypassed some wiring. So, AAA came out and they rewired everything correctly the way it was supposed to be. They installed a new thermostat and I was very satisfied with their service. They explained everything step by step and they showed me the parts that got replaced. All brand new parts and they actually opened up the parts in front of me. I was surprised. It was A+ quality. I’ve been with American Home Shield for about three and a half years now and so far, the repairs have been excellent.
Thanks for sharing your feedback Felix. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

Something happened under the kitchen sink where the dishwasher, the garbage disposal unit and the Instahot were in. It had an electrical issue. It messed up the dishwasher and the garbage disposal. And it was difficult because I had to call American Home Shield, get an automated menu, and I had to pick just one option. I tried to get someone on the phone the first time but I waited 10 minutes and then, it hung up on me. But when I finally got someone, the lady service agent was nice and she got someone in.
I like AHS and they have done good work, but a lot of time was wasted having to get somebody for things when if I just had one person, they come, they do it. And my experience was that they came, they needed a part, then I got to schedule another day. Like most recently with the garbage disposal, I told them that the electrician said we needed a new garbage disposal unit. I asked them to bring one so they brought one. But it was one horsepower when mine had twice the horsepower. It was frustrating. I couldn't use my garbage disposal for weeks so it just sat there until they could come back. In the meantime, stuff was down in there and I had to get them out. Also, the disposal and the dishwasher problems that shut down my kitchen have been resolved, but not without a lot of back and forth. AHS seemed like a good deal, but if I got to deal with many people, it’s not. I would just hire one person to do it if I have extra resources.

A compressor outside froze up. I contacted Harkins. And then we contacted the American Home Shield, and Harkins is on their list, and that's the one we've been dealing with for several years. The technician who came was knowledgeable. He told me what the problem was. In fact, they had a second guy come out so they could work two ends of the project to make sure everything was either not working properly or working properly. It hasn't been repaired yet though. They only ordered a remanufactured compressor.

I live in a three-level townhouse and it would be super hot on the top level, but the bottom level would be cold. I called American Hold Shield and told them that I needed someone to come out and look at my air conditioning. They told me it was gonna be a $100 deductible then I gave my credit card and they charged it. When the tech was here, he noted some stuff that he thought was wrong with the ductwork and said that he was gonna write up and give it to the warranty company. A lot of times something happens to my system and they’ll say they have no record of me ever getting it serviced, so at the time, I went ahead and had someone come out. Also, my house was built in 2016, so I wanted it documented that my AC system was working properly. But since the tech came out, I haven’t heard anything from anyone about my claim.
Other than that, AHS was a little expensive. I paid for my warranty upfront for an entire year so I was asking if I'd get a discount for paying for everything at once. When the rep said no, I told her that I could just go somewhere else and get it cheaper. She started saying how their work was so much better than everybody else's and how certain companies say that they would do certain things but they don’t. In the end, she knocked $50 off. But other companies were way cheaper and 50 bucks was a little ridiculous. And iIf I never use the service again, they just made free money for 10 months.

My heater was recently blowing cold air, and I made an online claim for it as it was early in the morning and American Home Shield wasn't open yet. I did it at 5 o'clock in the morning and by 7 o'clock, I received a text message from the company that was gonna come to my home. When they contacted me, they gave me a window of what time they could be here, and they got here at 11:30. The tech was great, and I made sure I got his name. Now that American Home Shield lets us choose our people, I'm gonna make sure I choose him because he's Nest-certified. My home is new and it's a smart home, and that's very important to me. I've had someone come before and they knew nothing about the Nest, and it was a waste of my time and money. I had to get someone else to come out. Aside from that, my experience has been good so far.

There was an issue with our garage door and when we called American Home Shield for that, the response was great. Filing it over the phone seems so much more convenient for us than doing it online. Although the contractor didn’t make the window as far as the estimated 8 to 10 AM time, he was quick and efficient in terms of the installation of the replacement. He was able to fix the garage door and it is back up and running now. The garage door was difficult to open without the springs, so having that back in motion allows us to utilize our third vehicle, which was parked in the garage at that time.

American Home Shield came with the closing for the house. I have been with them for a year now, but the cost has gone up. The last time I bought a house was 20 years ago. So, 20 years ago, it cost $300 to get the warranty, and now it costs almost $700 to do it. Still, AHS has always been great for the air conditioning. When I submit a claim online, communication seems to be more consistent. Also, their reps have been nice when I work with them. While the technicians they have sent out have been great, AHS could work on their communication. We have very specific instructions to call my husband’s number but everybody kept calling my number. AHS is too expensive if you have to pay for it out of pocket but it's still great overall if their warranty is part of the closing process.

Stay away, I purchased a home warranty and have had it with this company for several years. I live in a small town and they do not have a supply of technicians in my area. I understand this and I have used due diligence in my needed repairs. It seems AHS when they can uses the lower end of the quality when they do have contractor. In which this is a constant battle. I have had a plumbing leak for more than 3 weeks and the company (AHS) has assigned a local plumber that has a very bad reputation and has even been taken to court and has had judgments placed against him! Why would I want to be involved with anyone of this caliber? I do not. I have ask for assistance and I have been told twice now by the same company rep that since this company has already been assigned we cannot and will not authorize anyone else to correct your covered problem! Now I do not believe this to be true. This is just the first problem I have had.
This company AHS sent a repairman to repair or diagnosis my heating problem. The company they initially sent wanted 2500.00 to get my heating system to CODE. I contacted the company they originally sent and got a detailed list of the needed code items. I then contacted the municipality I live in and was told this was outrageous. I then called AHS again. They sent another company and the second company charged me 100.00 to meet the code items.
I now have heat and was not lied to or tried to be took by a dishonest company. And now after thorough review of my contract AHS has an agreement to pay a certain amount for code violations. I will say that if you ever get by to a supervisor usually your problem is handled, but to keep you from communicating with a "decision maker" you are put on hold for maybe more than an hour. And if notice a delayed response from the rep when you ask a question that is because a senior person is listening in on the conversation and the rep is being told what to say.
Like I have said anytime I have had an issue and actually have had the item repaired it has been 100% of the time by an escalated or senior person. Just take this information and use it wisely before you invest. A company with only 7000 5 stars and 2000 poor 1, 2 or even 3 stars should tell you something. So since I am 81 years old they may think they can railroad me but they better have extremely good luck in doing so as I have keep records, witnesses, and even pictures of the problems, but now I am getting too tired to keep this up and the stress, so I have been told to get help. Just review the company review guidelines and perhaps this will answer why there is no more negative reviews, just saying.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Our furnace was not turning off and our heat pump was not turning on. I tried to file the claim to American Home Shield online again but it said that there was still an open order so I had to call and say it wouldn’t let me do that. I'd prefer to do stuff online but it worked out great. AHS sent Air Control Heating out and assessed and found out that it was the control board that was not working. It looked like there were some burned wires up to it. They got authorization from AHS to replace that part, came back yesterday, fixed it, and we’re back in business.
We’ve had two service calls with Air Control and we would use them ourselves. They have been great, very friendly, professional, and they do what they say they’re gonna do. We have rentals and we’ll probably call them next time we have an issue with one of our houses. I would highly recommend them and American Shield. I'm in the real estate industry so I always mention to anybody that I know to buy a home warranty.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a locksmith and I ended up calling because, for some reason, their online system kept booting me out at the very end. He called me before he got here and gave me an estimated time of his arrival. He was very efficient and changed all my locks. It's nice that American Home Shield sets up all the appointment ahead of time. The last place I had when I bought a house just gave me a bunch of numbers and I had to call around, and it wasn’t easy. I had some issues with electrical outlets in my home and when I filed an online claim with AHS and it’s easy. There’s nothing a customer service agent is gonna do for me that’s not in the app. They sent out techs from Central Electric who fixed the issue and were amazing. I also called in a claim for a refrigerator concern and I wish the contractor was a little bit more proactive. At the time, I provided a lot of information like the model of my refrigerator, the symptoms it was having, and all things seemed to lead to one thing. And I had to wait for someone to come out to the house to tell me it was indeed still that one thing, then I had to wait for them to order a part to come back out.
So, I didn't understand the reasoning behind me providing information about my refrigerator beforehand because it didn't seem to come into play at all. Other than that, the techs who came out for everything else were awesome. They came with whatever tools they needed and were ready to do their jobs. AHS has been great as well.

The heater was blowing cold air even when I had the unit off. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield which was the easier method. It was super simple to navigate their website and usually, somebody would contact me within 24 hours, which was quick. I knew right away who the person was because it showed right on the website. That way, if I wanted to call the them, I could which was what I did. I contacted them on a Friday to submit the claim but they don't work on the weekend and they said they would get back to me. It was fine because we had heaters for the house. Then on Monday, Rose Heating and Air, the contractor, was out.
I asked Rose if they could call before they come and they did but I was at work at the time. They called 30 minutes before the guy came, so I was able to run home and meet him. He checked out the heater and found out what the problem was right away. They ordered the part and he said it might take a few days to get it but the next day, they called me and said they had the part. They came back and they put it in and it was fixed.
I've been with American Home Shield for six months now and that was my second claim. There's a $100 deductible and you can pay it online while you're submitting the claim, so you don't have to worry about any of that and that is what I do. My sister has American Home Shield and she has filed several claims over the years. She said that's who I need to go to because she has never had an issue with them. They came in and took care of things. They even had to replace their dishwasher one time. There are no problems with getting American Home Shield do the work that needs to be done.

American Home Shield's customer service was super, but I didn't like the automated service. It sucked just like all the rest of them in the world. But American Home Shield's automated service is a little bit better than most of them because most of them have a wait of 40 minutes. The lady from American Home Shield answered in about two or three minutes.
When The dishwasher wouldn’t work, and the pump and the heater were clogged, John came out and he was super. His professionalism and quality of work were top of the line. He came right out here and didn’t waste any time. He checked the dishwasher and knew exactly what he was doing. After trying to get the dishwasher to run, he said that he would write the report down and turn it into American Home Shield. He also said that if I could call American Home Shield, I should have them expedite the shipment. He would then come back out here and stick it on there. KitchenAid sent the parts and he put it in. The dishwasher has been working great since.
Everything that I've ever done with American Home Shield has always been positive, but they could lower their price. When we bought the house, our Realtor from ERA had American Home Shield. He said it was great, so we got it. We have known him for about 50 years and we trust what he says, and he was right. We’ve suggested to a couple of friends to use American Home Shield as well.

I noticed that my kitchen disposal unit was leaking. I went through the American Home Shield website on my phone, pulled up my contract, submitted a claim late that night and checked off the disposal. I then got a confirmation from AHS. I proactively called once I had a number and left a message to make sure. I was called back the next day. As soon as I made contact, the contractor said they would be there the next day. They gave me the approximate time. They showed up on time, I showed them where the problem was, and they looked at it. They got a disposal unit out of the truck, installed it, and they were good to go. The process was very smooth and efficient.
But I've had other claims that didn't go quite as smoothly. AHS has to manage their process a little bit more. AHS works very well in the front end but once they do the front end, it's up to me to coordinate with the vendor and not AHS keeping me updated. If you don't do it yourself with the vendor, it's kinda like the only thing AHS is interested in is billing you for the $75, and not so much keeping you advised as to where that vendor is and the process of ordering a part. I just see the bill from AHS which is fine.
Sometimes it's better to cut out the middle man and work directly with a vendor, whoever the local is. But sometimes, it'd be nice if AHS' feedback system worked a little bit better so that I could go to one spot. In the case of a refrigerator repair, it’s been out for at least three weeks and I haven't heard anything. It’s up to me to call the vendor back, where I think what should be happening is American Home Shield should be following up with that vendor to see if the refrigerator is actually repaired or not and giving me a status so I don't have to do it myself.
Also, I might have two or three questions and I see a charge in my account. It's hard to even reconcile what trouble the charge was for. Sometimes, I don't get any status updates on the other requests that have not been completed yet. I still have one claim on another property that is halfway done and I haven't had an update. I value the American Home Shield service but in my wife's case, she got upset enough that she canceled hers for her properties and she went on her own. I haven't gotten to that point yet.

My house is only four years old so I’m not even gonna have a lot of stuff going on. But every time I call American Home Shield for something that I think is serious, they find a way to say it would not be covered. They always use some section where they don’t cover this and this, and it is so weird. As consumers, we don’t necessarily read all the fine print. I’ve never even received a copy of their plan and besides, it’s bogus. For example, you have a main pipe that is covered but even if it’s the same pipe, if it leaves the house, then it’s no longer covered. This was my most recent claim and it was really annoying. This was not the first time either. There have been many times where our issue has been the main pipe or whatever outside, and it has never been covered.
You have an inside and an outside of the house. If you have a leak and it leaks in the garden, it’s not covered. But that’s weird because the land is yours. It is not only misleading but it is also dishonest in a way. I’m getting a bit fed up of spending hundreds of dollars every year when anytime there is a main claim, AHS doesn’t cover it. I don’t need them for the small items. But of course, that’s what they’re gonna cover. If I knew that the warranty would only cover the inside, I would have tried to find another warranty that covers everything. I will also not be wasting my time going online to file the claim. They give you options and if there’s a pipe leak, they should at least identify if it’s outside so I won’t even be wasting my time to have them bring somebody. Maybe it would also save them money as opposed to bringing people to tell me, “Sorry, it’s not gonna be covered.”
I had an electrical issue involving the transformer once and I was actually shocked that it was covered. The lovely man who came in said those were expensive lights but the problem was that the transformer would go away quickly. He said he doubted that AHS would cover it and I was going to tell him to just do the work and that I didn’t care if they would cover. But it seemed like he knew how how the warranty works – what they cover and what they don’t. Maybe it is a practice that is accepted by people. But as a consumer, it’s not really the best feeling. You’re not paying a lot of money. It is about $600 a year but you would expect that once in a blue moon, they're gonna cover something. But I guess it is the business of warranty companies. They want to maximize the profit at the expense of the consumer.
I also had a claim for the central vacuum and in the beginning, I received a phone call from a lady at American Home Shield. She said, “I’m sorry. I know it’s covered but nobody wants to work with us so we don’t have any contractor.” She asked me to find my own contractor but there were stipulations: 1) I could contact them, but 2) I could not do any work until AHS has approved it and the contractor has to contact them, and 3) I have to pay the contractor if AHS approves them then AHS would pay me.
When the lady gave me a section and was reading it, I was gonna get annoyed. But I figured there was no reason to get annoyed. She was just the middleman and she was just doing her job. I told her, “I don’t wanna listen to this. Thank you. I understand but you are gonna do it.” I told her they couldn’t tell me that in the couple of years that I’ve had the warranty, they didn’t have any contractor. I made a complaint regarding the fact that they were providing me a service that I was paying for and the fact that they did not provide that service. This was really when I had somebody who escalated it to a level where they sent somebody.
They did send me somebody but, of course, he didn’t do anything. American Home Shield just had to send somebody to deny whatever work needed to be done. At the end of the day though, the central vacuum does work, although not perfectly. The contractor who came out was a sweet chap. He said that the central vacuum was small and it should not have been put in for my 5,000-square-feet house. He said the suction was not that great and I needed a vacuum that is bigger. He said he was gonna call AHS and I should be receiving a phone call. But I never received a phone call. There is a missed call from a 1-800 number though, and I assumed it was American Home Shield because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt that they did call. But I’m sure they wanted to give me another section in which they would not do whatever they were supposed to do.
My experience with American Home Shield has not been great but it's fine. In the scheme of life, it was not a big deal but it was annoying to have a home insurer that doesn’t do anything. Another thing is that when we bought the house, there was a plan that was for a new house but then it was switched. American Home Shield said that after a couple of years, they don’t offer the plan anymore. They give you a different option and then you choose that. But they automatically enroll it without your knowing because you are doing an autopay. I have even stopped that because I wanna be very careful, especially now that it is approaching the end of the contract. If I don’t stop the autopay, they will renew it without me wanting to do it.
I don’t know if I wanna renew my contract with American Home Shield. I have to do my research as far as finding other people out there. The only thing I have is the ability to change the recipient of the monthly stuff that I pay. I’m sure they’re gonna provide the same type of services, but at least, I would wanna give business to people that give me great customer service.
Hello, Amina. I definitely understand your concerns with your warranty and what it actually covers. The policy is available to view within your online account. A member of our Social Media department will contact you to answer any questions you may have moving forward regarding the policy.

I had a toilet that needed to be fixed. I also had a shower knob that needed adjusting. At first I thought, "Why bother American Home Shield? The repairs can’t be that expensive." So I just called the plumber and have him come in to do the repair. But it was expensive. While the plumber was here, he went to check the water pressure and some other things that he does. When he checked the water heater, he said it was really dangerous and needed to be fixed as well. He also pointed out a pipe that was all white. It was leaking and he said I should get it fixed. When I told him that I have to pay American Home Shield $75 to come out, he said he charges more than that. The next time I have any kind of problem, I’ll call American Home Shield instead of him.
AHS has improved so much. I can remember waiting on line for ages to speak to someone. During my recent claim, the process was so simple and fast. I didn’t hold on to wait for someone on the phone. I just followed the instructions. I was very pleased with it. The tech who came out was a young man. He was neat, pleasant and did his job. He also didn't leave a mess. It was a good experience.

My dishwasher broke and something melted on the heating element below. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and that was easy to do. Then, the gentleman from Quality Appliances came out in two days. He told me exactly who he was and what he was gonna do. He fixed the problem and he was fantastic. He was very helpful as well and told me about maintenance stuff. Since then, everything has been working wonderfully and I don't have to handwash dishes anymore. So, I'm a lot happier. I would also refer American Home Shield. I'm in real estate, so I know that a home warranty is valuable and that having one is a must-have.

The whole process to the actual vendor that came out was good. They were quite efficient and they got it done. In regards to the American Home Shield, the whole process was very monotonous and very tedious. I was on the phone with them for two hours because when I first made the call, they said, "Okay, yeah. Heating with air-conditioning, okay," but when I mentioned the heating, because it's all tied together, they said that I gotta call back.
I mentioned that to the guy that came out here. He said that in order for me to have him look at that, I gotta call back and ask for an add on. I said okay and I spent like an hour. The guy took forever. I was at work and I needed my phone. I need to work. It took way too much time to add it on. Then, the guy said I could do it online but I can't do an add on to a service call online. American Home Shield should probably change that, so it doesn't waste our time because I was about ready to just give up at one point. What ended up happening is that I was on the phone for 42 minutes instead of just having a button online to do an add on for a service call. Also, the rep was so slow and I would be on hold for six or seven minutes and he was still working on it. It took way too long. Other than that, the contractor who came out were good and they knocked it out in one go.

They said they'll be sending somebody to come and look at it. They got me a contractor, United Air Temp, the next day. I gave my fees. When the contractor called, he told me they will be there at a certain time. And they were there on time and took care of the problem the same day. Since they left, nothing else had happened. The furnace is still working. They did a good job. I would give American Home Shield a positive recommendation if I have to tell somebody about them.

Our garbage disposal quit working and it created some leaking through the bottom of it. We contacted American Home Shield and got the work order scheduled. They assigned a company but we waited a week before service because the company that we were utilizing had a lot on schedule. We had a good experience with it and the service was awesome. Our warranty went fine but the replacement happened so fast I wasn’t aware of what type of garbage disposal was put in. We had a KitchenAid and I’ve got some generic-type brown disposal that was put in. I wish I was walked through what type of appliance they were replacing it with and how it was comparable to what we had. I’m a little pickier when it’s the things you can see on the outside like your microwaves or your ovens. I had no idea on the garbage disposal.
I did the claim with AHS online which was easy and convenient because I didn’t have to wait on hold for 30 to 60 minutes which generally seems to be the hold time I’ve experienced when calling the home warranty company. Doing it online was quick. They said somebody would be in contact with me within the next 24 hours and they were, which was good. The plumbing company that came out was excellent but I noticed that my deductible was charged quickly. Fortunately, I was prepared for it but I wasn’t aware that they take your deductible out before the service is even done. Usually, they charge you after the service has been completed. Now that I know that, I won’t go online and I’ll wait. I wanna know that somebody has come out and actually done the service before my deductible is taken.
We’ve had a good experience with our contractors. We’ve had an appliance repair person from Sears that was outstanding and a plumber who got right to work and did his business. He was totally professional. I had the least good experience with our very first issue with the young man that came out on our dryer. He held to the terms of the home warranty company and the part had to be shipped, but it took a long time. He was a little bit more vocal back and forth as far as dealing with a customer than I probably would have expected but he still got the job done and he gave some great pointers or recommendations. AHS is worth it. People need to look at what they wanna cover because some things aren’t worth it. A garbage disposal, you could pretty much have one of those installed at a pretty good rate and you’re paying $100 deductible. So, they’re not too expensive.
I would recommend AHS especially since I’m a single parent and I wanna make sure that it’s something that will continue to support our needs if we have additional issues. Sometimes when you have something that goes wrong, you feel bad about calling in again. I wanna make sure that we continue to get the same customer service. Sometimes it’s hard to communicate with the person that’s on the other end but today, I had a wonderful person that I spoke with. They are probably all great but there’s a little bit of a communication barrier sometimes when you get somebody and understanding what they’re trying to tell you.

Whenever I file a claim to American Home Shield, I do it over the phone and it's easy to get the claim started after the hold time. My most recent one was a main line backup and it has not been completed. I originally had Service Mechanical come out but they needed a company that was more equipped to service the main line. It was more of an issue than what he was equipped for so the contractor got back in touch with American Home Shield. Then, Patriot Plumbing came out and said that the problem was with the belly that we had in our main line. It was a miscommunication between them and American Home Shield, and AHS terminated the claim because Patriot Plumbing wasn't getting in touch with them as fast enough.
They had Service Mechanical come out again to take a look at the main line. It's just weird that it's taking forever to get any sort of answer. Overall American Home Shield has been great with the 10 years I’ve had them, but I want them to get in touch with me and see if we might get the mainline fixed as soon as possible.

I've been with American Home Shield for at least 10 years. I haven't used them that much, but every time I’ve used them, I’ve been happy with the results. I submit claims with them online, which is so easy to do. All I do is go on the internet, and it runs me through it. It’s so simple. I can do it in a couple of minutes on what I need to do. Then, I get a response in my email that they’ve called or they will call the company to take care of my problem. And I usually get a call within either that day or the next day.
The contractors that have come out have been good. But there was a situation with the plumbing guys. I had a very valuable book that ended up being gone downstairs. I had looked at the book just a day or so before, and after the problem with the water heater was over with, I went to get the book and it was gone. I don’t know who else would've taken it and I don’t know if it was him or not. But that was the only problem I’ve ever had.
We also had an individual come out to fix the icemaker and that was fine. With the washing machine, the contractor was supposed to be out yesterday. But we’ve had bad weather here in Kansas City, so they grounded the trucks. Then, he was supposed to be out this afternoon, but we had another bad night. So, they grounded the trucks today again. He said that the earliest he could be out is Monday at noon. But the weather has been bad here and the roads have been icy, so I can understand that. I would recommend American Home Shield.

Our ice maker was giving us problems with our refrigerator. It was easy enough to submit the claim to American Home Shield online and the service I got from their contractor was fine. However, I would've liked it to have been a little quicker. The issue was that when they scheduled a time to bring the part out, I told them that my husband and I had an appointment in the timeframe that they gave us. I told them we probably would not be home until after a specific time, and they said they would make a note of that to let the repairman know. That didn't happen though. The repairman called us about an hour and a half before we were done with our appointment. So we missed him and we had to wait another week for him to come out to install the part. I wasn't really happy with that part.
The delay was an inconvenience. But when he finally came out, it only took him around 10 minutes to repair the refrigerator. The only other issue I have with American Home Shield is that when they automatically charge something on my card other than the regular payment, I would like to know what it is. I found a charge on my card and there's no explanation other than they're the ones that made the charge.

The guy came and fixed the problem and we haven't had a problem with the furnace since.
American Home Shield has improved because before, it would take forever to get through when you were trying to make a claim, but now, if you hit the status of your order, it kind of circumvents you from the other people that are just making the claim. I had a claim in progress and the person never responded, so when I hit 3, I got to talk to somebody right away. So, that was nice. It seemed like the process was a lot smoother than before. Also, with American Home Shield, I don’t have to worry about things that break down. I can just call and have them send somebody out.

Had a handle come out of a shower so I turned off the main water line and called American Home Shield. They sent out a plumber the next day to which he looked at the damage and seemed confused. Eventually he said it looks like freeze damage and the wall would need to be removed and the valve needed to be replaced but the warranty company won't cover freeze damage. Asked for a second opinion to take a look and never heard from them even when I called them.
Had a REAL plumber come out since I needed water at my house and he said the "freezing of the valve" couldn't happen since my house stays warm, the garage only drops to 56 degrees and the pipes stayed plenty warm. The cartridge was bad which took 6 minutes to replace and fixed the issue with a $10 part. Was told by American Home Shield that if I had a quote done by another company they sent out within 48 hours, that they could use his diagnosis (they called 45 hours after the occurrence). I requested for no service fee or reimbursement for the lies told by their contractors but still haven't been able to get an unscripted answer from anyone in India which just an FYI they "don't have any management."

This summer my mother had an issue with her air conditioning unit and I called it into AHS. Whoever the vendor that came out then replaced a lot on the air conditioning unit. The most recent claim that we had was for the microwave. We couldn't use it. I submitted the claim and I was happy with the service. It was a quick turnaround and everyone was very polite and knowledgeable. Pender Enterprise came out within 48 hours to diagnose the problem. There were blue sparks from the inside of the microwave where the metal rack sat, so they suggested not to use the microwave and that it should be replaced. We are now waiting for the new microwave to come in and to be installed.
Some of our appliances here in the house are a little high-end, but the replacements are not the same brand. Everything in our kitchen was KitchenAid, but now, since we've had to replace the dishwasher and the microwave, they are both GE now. If there would be an improvement, American Home Shield should offer their customers the same brand. We spent a lot of money on the appliances that we had and to have them replaced with something that is of not the same quality doesn't feel right. Other than that, the guys who came out were excellent. They had to order a part and they came back for a return call. The furnace has been working fine since the repair. American Home Shield is a really good company. I’m gonna get it for my daughter and her husband for their birthday coming up as a present.

The pipe fitting was not glued to my upstairs flooring and my experience in submitting a claim for that with American Home Shield was good. The service of the contractor was pretty good and way decent. He contacted me and I told him what I thought the problem was. Then he was here in three days' time and took care of the problem for me. But I’m still waiting for someone to come and patch my walls. Without AHS, though, the repair would have cost me an arm and a leg, so I’m glad I have them. I've had them for over a year now and I’ve had nothing but good results from them. I sure plan on renewing with them.

Our icemaker was not making ice and there was a loud noise. We called the warranty number we were given and talked to someone in the claims department. The AHS rep gave me a number and said someone from quality appliance services would be calling me. Then the contractor came, and I had to move the stuff out of the refrigerator. He had to get a new part the first time and that took about a week and a half, but they were quick after that. They fixed the icemaker, but we still had a problem with it making some noise, so they came back out. On the second time, it was more on fixing something that was part of the unit and it's been doing fine since. Having a warranty has been valuable so far and American Home Shield is good.

My thermostat was not working properly and my heating wasn't staying on. It was going on and off. The thermostat was causing my bill to go up. I called AHS and was referred to Ice Cube services. I was told the technician's name and when was gonna come. He was a very nice man. He brought his own ladder, went up the stairs and into the attic. He looked at my heatings units there. He explained to me that my unit had one of those dryer paper things but it wasn't a dryer one. It was for the air conditioning thing. It was stuck on the vent and that was causing my unit to shift in temperature.
He took it off and cleaned it out since it was dirty. He then came downstairs and looked at the thermostat. He changed it to a new one and gave me directions on how to turn it on and off. He set it at a certain temperature and gave me the instructions if I wanted to change it to different times for during the day. He explained different things. I wanted to have the air conditioning unit outside checked too. When it turns on and off, it vibrates the whole house. But the technician didn't hear it because it wasn't clicking on. He said that could be different. He would have to come out for another visit and do that air conditioner. Other than that, I had a very good experience.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very easy. When I had a dryer problem, I just went over the internet and submitted it. The experts they sent out from DMV Protect were polite and nice. They gave advice on the maintenance of the dryer in the future. They were concerned about the well-being of me, the client too. However, the dryer problem was something that wasn’t covered by AHS so I ended up paying the experts $100 to do the cleaning of the dryer that hasn’t been maintained.

The problem was that the water was not going to the right place. The refrigerator was making ice and the water coming underneath was eventually getting frozen, and everything was getting stuck. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent a contractor out, but the repair didn't work. Then AHS sent somebody else out to repair the appliance. I called the contractor, Direct Appliance, and they sent a technician who came out twice. He fixed and settled the problem last Friday, but on Monday I had the same problem.
So far, AHS has sent two different companies out, but the contractors were not able to fix the problem. My issue has not yet been solved and we still have this problem right now. Nevertheless, AHS has been working very well and they've been doing a very good job. The contractors that they've sent out have been doing the work in a timely manner. The technicians have been good and very cooperative, and they've been trying their best to solve the problem.

However, they said they would be there between 8:00 in the morning all the way until 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon. And that was a big window. They got there around 11:00 that day. But the thing was that I didn’t go to the gym because I was waiting around. But the interaction with the contractors was good. They came in, they put things around their shoes to cover it up, and then they went upstairs, where the problem was. So far, having AHS has been very valuable. They also fixed our dishwasher.

I had sewage pouring out of the shower and out of the bathtub. The shower was low, so it was all over into the cabin and it was horrible. This was two Sundays ago. The first time was not bad. The first time, the water started coming out, so the people who went in the cabin turned off all the water and it stopped. I called American Home Shield and they got 1st Call Plumbing to go out right away and they took care of the problem. The plumber didn’t end up snaking it out because the water just started flowing down. He couldn’t find the problem. The water started flowing and he got it cleared out. When he came the next Sunday, the same thing happened but this time, it just started pouring and kept coming up. It's going on the floor and everything, poop and pee.
I called American Home Shield and I got a lady who was probably overseas and she didn’t get it. She said that she was gonna have it expedited. I told her that she was not even gonna find anybody open on a Sunday. I was on the phone with her for over an hour. I had somebody who I thought could go out there on a Sunday and they probably could have if she had approved it early in the morning when I first called. I asked if I could get outside authorization for somebody to go out. I said that I have raw sewage on my floor and she asked me what would be the reason for needing outside authorization. This was after she had tried about five different people and couldn’t find anybody to come out.
Then she supposedly found somebody that could come out and I told her that I don’t think they can. She said that it says 24 hours, that they're expediting it and that they would call me within four hours. Four and a half hours later, I called the number that she had called and I talked to the lady who had talked to her and she said that she told her specifically that they could not expedite it and that nobody could go out here on a Sunday. It was a nightmare. So, I called American Home Shield back and I was told I would be called back within four hours by somebody from the dispatch team. I never got that call. I gave up. I went to bed because it was about eight hours later.
On Monday, I called American Home Shield first thing in the morning and I find out that the claim was cancelled. I called the plumbing company and they said that I cancelled it. I told them that I didn’t and they told me that American Home Shield cancelled it. So, I called American Home Shield and they said that the first guy who went out originally had to go back. So, they called 1st Call Plumbing and thankfully, they were able to go out the next day and we've been working with them.
The plumber had to put a claim out between the septic tanks in the cabin and I was told by American Home Shield, after he did that, that then it would be authorized for him to snake it out and that if there were still problems, it would be authorized for him to use a camera in it to find out what the problem was. But I got a bill last night from 1st Call Plumbing and it says on there that American Home Shield did not authorize there to be a camera. I have previously been told that if he couldn’t find the problem, then he could use a camera.
Also, the plumber has to cut out a section of the pipe and I know that that’s not covered by American Home Shield. But we're fine with paying for the clean out because that has to be put in and we know that’s not covered because that’s something that the first person who built it should have done and they never did. Now, I'm still trying to get a quote for them to cut out the pipe and all I've been told is that American Home Shield denied the camera snaking thing. That should've been covered by American Home Shield.
Another thing is I asked that AHS lady on the phone about four times if I could speak to her supervisor and each time, she would say that he's on the phone. Then when I talked to somebody on Monday, she said that I was probably sent overseas for my phone call, so there probably wasn’t even a supervisor there. If a claim is something that happens on a weekend, giving me to somebody overseas, somebody who does not speak English as a first language, it is very difficult. We got nowhere and I was losing my mind. God took care of the whole thing in the end. Our floors are not ruined. Our house cleaner was able to clean it up but it took a lot.
Good afternoon Kathryn,
Your concerns are understood regarding the coverage that American Home Shield provides and the sewage service request. Per the contract it states that there are some exclusions, etc. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a water leak on my refrigerator line. It was a small leak, but still, a leak is a leak and the meter was still running on it. Amazing Plumber and Rooter came out, but the guy that came didn’t confirm when he first came. The property hasn’t ever been maintained by the last owner and I just acquired it, and when he got to the property, the tenants weren't in the best position, so he was a bit irritated walking into a home like that.
He was in there last week and he told me, "Oh, I have to come back 'cause I don’t have this part." I said, "Okay." I was standing there waiting, then he got a phone call and as soon as he got the phone call, he was really rude about it. He started talking and walking out the door. I asked, "Uh, hello? When are you coming back?" He said, "Well, if I can come back tomorrow, I will. But if not, then it'll have to be some time next week or someone will call you." They called me by Monday, but it was a little frustrating.
They sent me a text message and I forwarded it to my tenant that someone was on their way. The company texted me back and said, "No, they came out at 9 o'clock." I didn’t even know what was going on. If I'm getting a text at 11 and I text my tenant that the tech was coming at nine, it was backward the way the company was doing it. Nevertheless, the whole repair did not take long.
I really appreciate having American Home Shield because it has made owning a property a lot easier. I just wish that, in some way, the customer interaction with the next contractor would be a bit smoother. It seems like I have to do the majority of the calling to schedule appointments and make sure that they have my appointment. I'm very happy with the experience with American Home Shield and I'd definitely suggest them to anybody who owns a home.

Some just wait and go ahead with the allotted time of 24 hours and others don't. They call me right away or within that same day so it's fantastic. Chaney Electric had to come out and they were great. Everybody that AHS had sent is good this time around. But there were some that take longer. There was also one year where they were horrible and the claim was for an air conditioning. But the contractors have gotten a lot better.
I've been with American Home Shield for a few years now, and I have noticed that my monthly price has been going up. I still need to get an electrical in. I did that earlier but not recently when I haven't had to speak with them about issues. A couple of times when I called, the phone lines were busy. There was a call volume and a long wait. Two fellows came and they looked at it for about 30 seconds and said that they were gonna replace it right then. The helper went to the truck, got one and 15 minutes later, they were through. They were very courteous and kind and they did a good job.
One thing I was disappointed with AHS though was that I wanted to get them to check my heater before the season, but they told me that they don’t take care of anything unless there’s a problem. Preventative maintenance checks keep appliances from being a problem and I don’t agree with not wanting to check out the products especially heating and air conditioning. I’ve had American Home Shield for the last five years and every time we've had a problem, they’ve done a fantastic job so I’m very happy. Our furnace went out on the coldest day we had ever seen here in Michigan. The exhaust motor was out and it came to a grinding halt. That was why I made the call and filed the claim. The automated system wasn’t too bad. Sometimes, it doesn’t understand the response but that’s typical of many automated systems. When I made the call last Wednesday, it was the automated system that made the claim. Then in the morning, I did a follow-up with the vendor that was assigned. But they could not accommodate us that same day.

The plumber went out the next day or the day after that and took a photo of what was going on. He capped off the water so that I could turn the water back on from the main outside. It took a while for the contractor to submit the estimate to American Home Shield and for American Home Shield to review it and see if the claim was covered by my policy because the plumber was easy. An electronic board in the heater needed to be replaced. I filed a claim with AHS and they sent out a crew from South Placer Heating and Air who acknowledged the problem. But they never followed up and ordered the part. They were also rude and when we called them to follow up, their rep said they thought that we were gonna take care of it. That made no sense at all since the repair was covered.
Also, when my wife asked the rep she talked to if she could just talk to the tech who was out here so he'd tell her what happened, she said she could only go by the notes. At the same time, she was claiming that she was the owner and that she was the final say-so. That created the conflict. But the owner called me after he was told of the conflict and said that it was not an issue. He also said that he would get it all taken care of as soon as American Home Shield reissued a work order. But eventually, AHS got somebody else out who was very good and he got it all taken care of. All in all, the claim was completed in two weeks.
Aside from that, we were told that because of the cold weather back east, AHS wasn’t very accessible. So my wife had to be on the phone for an excess of an hour to be able to make the claim. But we had some weather that was 70 below and it was straining everyone’s capacity, so I get it. Aside from that, often, people that buy that type of insurance are hesitant because it seems that at the end of the day, insurers always find a reason to say that their claim is not covered. But we can’t all be prepared for all things at all times and I don’t blame AHS for what happened with my last claim because in the end, they took care of it.

I've had American Home Shield since 1999 and we got them in Dallas then also in Memphis. A couple of years ago, there was a water spot in my downstairs dining room and I called AHS. They assigned a contractor and a guy came out. He told me it was just the caulking around the tub and shower and that I needed to recaulk it, then he left. I ripped all that out, recaulked it all, and then about two weeks later, a hole came through my ceiling because the water in the drain tube in the back of the tub had a leak, and the guy didn't see that. AHS wouldn't cover the damage to the ceiling or the floor. So then, I asked for that contractor to never come back.
Then I did a request online for a toilet that was messed up and they sent the same company out here. I guess it resets every year who I don't want to come out. AHS denied my claim for that because I replaced the handle in the tank. The handle costs $8 but AHS said they wouldn't cover the claim. I was gonna fire them there but they offered me $300 at the end of the day. This problem has been going on for six weeks and I'm not too impressed right now. I'm frustrated.
I had another claim after Christmas with the air that was blowing downstairs. The guy AHS sent out came and was here for about 15 minutes. He got the appliance working and then he left. Two weeks later, it did the same thing so I called him back. AHS said that the first guy said there was no problem. But the second guy said there was a wire loose. He said that he attached a wire really good and got it working again. Then there was no heat on Monday and it was still 50 degrees downstairs. The guy had to order a part that day and he also said that he needed something cleaned. So he cleaned a bunch of stuff and I paid out of pocket.
When the part came in on Tuesday, the contractor had a breakdown with their truck and they were a couple of hours late. It was supposed to be 1 to 5 so I had to leave my son's birthday party. They said that they could fix it from outside and I didn't have to be there and that the appliance would be working when I get home. However, it's still not working when I got home last night so they're coming back in today. AHS has always been helpful, but in the last couple of years, the contractors haven't fixed the issues or they've had issues. Also, I can get a cheaper contract than AHS.

We have well water and there had been no water at all. I phoned in a claim to American Home Shield, and the rep was always excellent. She knew exactly what happened, and she understood water wells. To get that claim process going was easy breezy. Aqua Pump, the contractor that was sent out, was awesome also. They were our original people, to begin with. They know how to talk to people. They explained, in detail, exactly what they were doing. They took pictures, and I took pictures, too. Then, the whole pump just went away. The unit has been excellent since! I could not flush my toilet if I did not have water, and I didn't have water without a water pump. I have animals, too. So, without it, I couldn't have existed. I've loved AHS forever.

I had an attic fan that would not push in air through the actual vents even though it would come on. And while I had a good experience submitting a claim to American Home Shield, it was unclear on a couple of the options. Having a little more explanation would have been nice. But the technician from Total Air Care came out not much later. He was very knowledgeable and thorough, and he got the problem fixed. Since then, the attic fan has been good. I was very happy with the experience.

However, Sears called me and changed it as they only come once a week, which was not something that AHS knew when I scheduled the appointment. The guy from Sears then came out pretty fast and he did a good job. He didn't waste time. I was hoping that he would go out and get a new unit, but he was able to fix the unit that we have. American Home Shield sent techs to fix the shower faucets in my master bedroom and the repair has been good. But the one in the other family room is still dripping. When I tried to make a recall for them to come and change the cartridge for me, they left me on the phone for more than two hours and nobody picked up so I went online to do it. But it's a little bit complicated to submit a claim online.
This last time, I was also supposed to put a claim for my toilet. But they did not allow me to do that and only let me put the claim for the faucets. I had to submit two claims, which is very difficult and costly for me. Now, I have to make a $75 payment to fix my toilet and then, the faucets. I feel like I'm going to change my home warranty to another one because of that. But the problem is with whoever is managing the website and not AHS. The people at AHS are helpful and other than the tech who would not allow me to get the refrigerator with my claim for my faucet, their techs are decent. They are also good with claims and it only takes 24 hours, or at most, two days for somebody to take it and contact me. Then by the third day, it's done.

I have been stressed out due to not having heat where me and my two small children reside. No one wants to be without heat in their own home when it's 8 degrees outside. They send someone every year for the same thing, but yet I still have to pay the service fee. It's not right and it's not fair. I hope that these companies know that God sees everything. Beware!

We took AHS plan continuously for 3 years, and this is first time we got issue with Water heater. Contractor came on 4th day of submitting request and requested AHS to replace water heater. Getting approval and equipment took another 3 days. Now contractor giving us time to replace the water heater after another 4 days. So, we are without hot water in taps for 10 days.
Again, contractor has to charge $612 for other modification which is not covered in AHS. So, for me it is like paying $750 to AHS is waste every year. If you don't take any home warranty...you can get any repair done by same day or max. by 2-3 days in the same price as you pay for AHS + contractor. Waiting for hot water in your tap for 10 days in winter is that you never want. AHS need to take care of customer ease on priority rather than contractor ease on time frame they can provide their service. If not, they should tell customer to get things done by themselves and reimburse them later.

It took us 24 hrs to get approval from AHS to hire our own contractor since none of theirs could make it out. Our contractor said the furnace needs to be replaced. They can replace the furnace today Thursday 1/31, and AHS wants a second opinion, they think it’s acceptable to wait another 24 hrs without heat in Chicago during our historic low temps, just so they can get a second opinion. First off, this is a B rated company by the Better Business Bureau. That should be a warning. Something essential (Like my well pump) isn't covered by any of their standard plans unless you pay extra. Also, they will only cover a septic/sump pump for the first year? Even if you continue your plan? The customer service rep (Nickie) was completely unwilling to work with me on the flexibility of their plans. This company seems to have some shady practices. We had an issue with our double oven. AHS was responsive and replaced the oven. It was shipped and supposed to be installed. The company delivering the oven would not install it due to the fact it was hard wired into the house circuit. The company sent someone who was incapable or unwilling to install our oven. I wrote a review about it. I received a call from a media specialist for AHS. She was understanding and said we could work out getting it installed.
At the time, our kitchen had begun restoration for a water leak and mold. She said to call her back when the kitchen was completed as she would keep the claim open. Granted, it has been 3 months and our kitchen is still not completed, but I have been trying to contact her for 2 weeks via email and telephone. I have not received any response to my requests. I am extremely disappointed in AHS due to this fact. I expect at least a phone call to review the claim and where we are on it. AHS is failing us on this claim. (This is the only claim I have had a problem with, but it is kind of a big item, as they have been excellent except for this one).
Hello, Barry. Thank you for letting me know your issue has been resolved.

Filing a claim online with American Home Shield has been easy. I pick what I want and move on. It would be nice though if they let me pick more than one thing. For instance, I was able to pick heat pump and furnace because they both are HVAC. But, one time, I had a situation where we were gonna work under the washing machine and the incinerator but it wouldn't let me pick both of them. It would just let me do this section or that section. I couldn't cross sections.
When the heating and air guys came out to take a look at the furnace/heat pump, they let me know it could be this or that. But if it was this, it was gonna cost me this much out of pocket. If it was that, it could be something else. I didn’t understand that that was the case. So it could be as much as $900 out of my pocket or could be more, depending upon what's happening. To have that information would be really instrumental. We had to have them out three times and the issue still hasn’t been resolved yet. The interaction left a bad taste in my mouth because I found out things from them that AHS should have told me. Because of this, I started looking at competitors to AHS to see what they offer. With another claim for a plumbing issue though, the problem got fixed. There was just something stuck in the aerator and the guy was able to get it out.

We were sitting here one night and started feeling cold air, so we got up and checked the heating. It was blowing out cold air instead of warm air, so we switched it over to the emergency heat, but it was still blowing out cold air, which it shouldn't be doing. We called our son-in-law and he came out and took a look at it. He said that he wasn't 100% sure, but he thought that either our Freon was out or that we have a leak in the Freon. I went online the next day and put in the service call with American Home Shield.
I told the man from the first company that came out about the cold air and he went out and checked it, but he said that there was nothing wrong with our Freon and that everything looked good. He thought that it was one of the heat strips, so he went back outside. He came in and said, "We need to call an electrician because, when I went out there the first time, everything was fine, but I went out this time and I got shocked." Whatever happened, it happened really quickly.
He went through American Home Shield and they sent out an electrician. The electrician went out and checked it, and he came in and said, "I don't know what the man is talking about because I have checked that whole unit over from top to bottom and there is no electrical current that would shock anybody or anything. So, I honestly don't know what the man's talking about." He added, "But, my company also does heating and air. We just don't have that part through American Home Shield. He also said that the first thing to check when the unit and the emergency heat are blowing out cold air is the Freon. He said that it's either that or the reverse valve. He then put his report into American Home Shield and when AHS rescheduled someone to come out, they called a different company.
The next guy said that there was a leak in the coil and he put in a stop leak kind of thing. He said if the leak was not very big, it would take care of it. Then, he put in three pounds of Freon and it lasted for a week. We had good heat for about a week, then I had to call again and they came back out on a Monday. He said that he found the leak, but he was gonna have to put through American Home Shield to find out if they wanted him to try to repair the leak or if they wanted him to replace the coil. However, we haven't heard back from anybody until Wednesday, so we called them and they had us scheduled with someone to come out on Tuesday. I'm waiting for their scheduler to call me because our temperatures are supposed to drop. We can't go without heat until Tuesday.
This issue has been ongoing since the last week of January. The guy from the company that is working with us now knows what he is doing and he is very thorough. The only problem I have with them is their scheduling because we have been scheduled three or four days wait time every time. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield. They have done their part and I have no complaints about that.

I have at least five policies with AHS and I've been with them for over a year now. I just renewed my contract and I'm on my second year. I wish that they could cover more stuff on the air conditioning. Every time I have an air conditioning, it costs thousands of dollars, and they never cover anything. $10 for a Freon is nothing because a pound of Freon is $110. My experience with American Home Shield was smoother than I expected. Recently, the pop-off valve for the top of the hot water heater started to leak. I called AHS to submit a claim and it was a piece of cake. The contractor who came out for it was nice and very informative. He let me know what he was gonna do and he was able to fix it in one visit. Everything has been working perfectly since then.

One of the water hoses that supplied my icemaker and water in the door of my refrigerator was leaking. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the process was wonderful. The AHS rep told me who the contractor was gonna be and the date that he would be calling. Sure enough, he called and said he had the job and what date he was gonna come out, which was in a few days. He also called me the day before the service and said he was going to be there between 11:00 and 2:00, and he was there at about 12:00. He was so gracious, thorough and polite. He repaired the appliance and provided great service. It worked out well. I recommend AHS.

During the minus 55 degrees, I had someone check the furnace because it was 64 in my house and it was set at 72. This was the first time this has ever happened. I submitted my claim over the phone and AHS sent somebody out within the hour because the guy was in my area, which was fabulous. The guy said my furnace was fine, and the problem was because of the extreme heat. He was great and professional. He did a little adjustment, and my account was charged $75.
I had a plumber about two years ago, however. It was B-N-K and it was absolutely worthless. He was telling me that this and that were broke, and he didn’t do anything. He unclogged my garbage disposal and got it running, but then it stopped again. I will never have B-N-K back. AHS should get them out. Also, I have a new toilet in the powder room. A contractor put it in and everything was fine, but a week later, the thing kept running and running. My son happened to be in town and he’s very handy. He took the knob to flush it off and the part was put in backwards. So, my son saved me $75. Still, I hate it when I have somebody come out and the same problem happens. I was disappointed in those two times, but all of my other interactions have been good.

The garbage disposal unit was no longer functioning. Initially, I made a request for repair and submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and doing that was easy. But when the contractor, Mister Plumber, called me, it took a little longer to have the matter resolved and the unit repaired than I had hoped. I tried to set up an appointment for the following week when I was going to be there, but they said I couldn't schedule that far out which I found odd. In the end, that made things take longer than I had expected. AHS did its part, but the repair was not as quick with respect to Mister Plumber. Other than that, the guy that did the repair was fine and the work that he did was fine.

But, since I have to go elsewhere, because they can’t do the work, it is costing over $11k. They are still only cutting me a check for $1016. This place is a total ripoff.

They contacted the plumbing company again who set up another date and time. This happened on three different occasions. I checked out the plumbing company under contract to AHS. I was given a confirmation number and the rep stated that the policy has been terminated effective on that date. AHS kept billing us afterwards. There was no way to cancel the policy online, so much so we had to have our credit card company to block their auto pay attempts. Contacted AHS the second time after getting a demand letter for 2 months of payments, of the two months after the sale of the property and the cancellation of the policy. I called AHS again, the rep said there was no record of cancellation back in November of 2018...the confirmation number was basically meaningless...
I called AHS a third time, somehow they were able to find the original cancellation record from November of 2018. But they couldn't explain why they kept billing me for the 2 month after the cancellation. I'm on hold with the "Retention Department" for the last 45 minutes. What a joke. After being on hold for 26 minutes, Nancy answered. I explained I'd submitted a work order on 12/13/18 for a plumbing issue. As of today, 1/30/2019, their assigned plumber had still not completed the work, although he had said several times it would be done "today" (and this was the 2nd plumber AHS had assigned). Nancy talked to the plumber, who of course told her he planned to do it "today", so she told me I had to give him one more chance, and if he did not do it today, to call back tomorrow and they would assign a different contractor. I told Nancy he had told me the same thing for the last 45 days and I had no reason to believe today would be any different and I would like to work with a contractor who would keep his word, but Nancy told me to give him one more chance and call back tomorrow if he didn't contact me "today".
Since it had already taken 26 minutes to get through to her, and without resolution, I asked for a direct number, which of course, she did not have. I asked for an email address where I could send a written request for a new vendor and file a formal complaint against the current one, since a review yesterday 1/29/19 on the AHS website from "JHF" said he/she had emailed AHS and received a reply that day ~ but all Nancy would give me was a PO Box to mail my review. I repeatedly asked for a supervisor, and Nancy repeatedly told me she was sorry but the supervisor was on another call and there was no one else I could speak with. It has been a frustrating experience, and I still have no water pressure in my kitchen sink, the issue is getting progressively worse since it is now wet under the sink, and I have no resolution on the horizon, after 45 days of this. I would never recommend AHS to anyone, friend or enemy.

We are currently on day 16 without heat in our house. The current temperature is -3 degrees with wind chills into the -30s. The lack of effort and concern from this customer service department is appalling. Hours spent on hold for "service specialists" who barely speak English. This wait is due to them not allowing the part we needed to be picked up from the parts place. AHS insisted they order the part themselves. They waited almost a week and failed to order the part. After all this they finally decided to order the part from the same location the technician had offered to pick it up from in the first place. Ironically this situation is almost identical to the one we encountered in the summer of 2017 with our air conditioner. Save yourself the trouble and do business elsewhere.

My gas furnace stopped working 1/18/19. AHS (American Home Shield) sent its own HVAC contractor (Americool Heating and Cooling) to check out my gas furnace. Here were what they diagnosed: "Furnace will need to be replaced due to damage... Also venting will need to be redone. Venting that is installed is short PVC plumbing 90's and should be long sweep 90's per code. With the wrong venting being installed it caused heat to be trapped in the furnace and furnace to explode). My Carrier Gas Furnace has been working for 16 years and passed permit inspection when installed. All the sudden, short PVC plumbing can cause a furnace to explode (very unlikely the cause to me).
I called my own HVAC with a long record and better reputation (Michael & Son Services). Here were what they diagnosed "Tech found indication of leaking condensation furnace (cabinet was completely rusted out) as well as exhaust flue, burner tube and burner compartment badly burnt from flame rollout/due to condition of tech could only offer replacement options". My own contractor only charged me $89 for diagnosis compared to AHS's contractor charged $100 per visit. It sounded as a wear and tear issue and should be covered by AHS's contract (3x3 system plan):
2. HEATING INCLUDING DUCT WORK COVERED: All components and parts of the following heating systems: Forced air (gas, electric, oil) - Geothermal - Wall mounted heaters - Floor furnaces - Package units - Heat pumps - Mini-splits - Hot water or steam circulating heat - Electric baseboard - Room heaters - Cable heat (if main source of heat to the home or room). With regard to duct work, except as otherwise noted herein, the following are covered: Plenums - Dampers - Damper-only controls - Leaks or breaks in duct work (sheet metal, duct board, and flex duct including vapor barrier) from heating and/or air conditioning unit(s) including registers or grills.
NOT COVERED: Outside or underground piping, well pump, and well pump components for geothermal and/or water source heat pump - Fuel storage tanks - Portable units - Fireplace, grain, pellet, or wood heating units (even if only source of heating) - Legally mandated diagnostic testing when replacing heating or cooling equipment. My claim is unjustly denied and I have been paying on time for the past 3 years with AHS. When I called I had to wait for at least half an hour to talk to an agent (very poor customer service nowadays and no excuse).

Same Day Appliance Repair was the fourth one to be sent out and they did well. The technician was professional and technically capable. They knew what they were doing.
Whenever American Home Shield sends someone out, their people come out and do the work. However, AHS wants me to pay the fee, although they don’t have a process to validate if the people came out. We’re still working through the process, but it’s fine. Normally, AHS is good, though, and this is the only time I had that I experienced like that.

I called a heating company out and was gonna pay for it out of pocket because I knew the warranty wouldn't cover just a tune-up on it. The guy came out and told me that the electric furnace wasn't getting power because it had a 120 connection and not a 220 connection. He said it was an electrical problem. So then, I contacted American Home Shield since it was an electrical problem, and I figured they would cover that. The electrician came out, and he tested everything. He found out it was not an electrical problem. He checked everything and all the lines were running fine. He did his job. It ended up that AHS sent me to a heating and air place, which was South Heating & Cooling.
I usually submit a claim with AHS online, but in this particular situation, I tried to call it in because I was gonna tell them what the heating and air company told me, and that it may be an electrician thing. However, I couldn't get ahold of anybody at AHS. I ended up having to call a heating and air company and tell them the situation. And that was when they switched it to an electrical problem instead of the heating and air. They were gonna send another technician out, but then, I don't want to deal with that again. They responded quickly and provided great service, so the website seems to work. Once, I submitted a claim for the heat pump. It was frozen outside and then, it was blowing cold air inside. On their website, you just pick whatever appliance that you’re having an issue with but you don’t describe the issue at all. They don’t ask you for very much information and they don’t even wanna know, so I just selected heat pump. It couldn’t be any simpler. Then, they gave me a callback. This morning, I put in a claim and I had somebody there in a couple of hours. At other times, it was several days. If I indicated that it was an emergency, they would try and escalate it.
United Air Temp called and they got a bit of an idea of what the situation was. They scheduled somebody to come out and we’ve had the same tech every time. He is a super great guy, respectful, kind, patient and very good. We've only been in the house a month and we’ve used AHS four times. American Home Shield has been easy to work with and their technicians have been very professional. They had fixed my water heater last year. The contractor came out and I had a couple of questions. They answered my questions to a T for me so I didn’t have any worries about it. Recently, the blower motor in the lower part of the furnace was squealing like crazy. It worked for a minute then squealed from about 10:15 until 4:00 in the morning. Then I turned the temp down on the furnace and it finally cooled down enough to where it wasn’t squealing like crazy anymore. Then it kicked back in the next day.
I submitted the claim for the furnace over the phone, and the gal that I talked to had everything set up really quickly. The gentleman from Prescott & Sons came out and the blower motor was squealing when he got there. He opened up the furnace and knew exactly what the issue was. He told me what it was, got the parts and put it in. I didn’t even have to wait around while he was going to get the parts, which was nice. I could go back to work, so I was happy with him.

In about three days, which was reasonable, a tech came out and he was here for a couple of hours. He was able to fix the issue and for somebody who knows how to do that, it was a minor repair.
I've had American Home Shield in two houses. When I bought the first house a couple of years ago, the air conditioning system was over 10 years old and on its last leg. I tried to negotiate something with the seller, and the realtor represented both. She said it will just be covered with the home warranty and I wasn’t familiar with it. I bought it, and then didn’t use it. I had two occasions to use them and rather than do that, my wife called services we’ve used in the past.
We’ve been here forever, so we already had people we dealt with. Ironically, both of the people who came out told us not to use AHS because we may or may not get a good technician, and they look for other things to charge for. That’s what I was told by people I didn’t know. I was in my other house for two years, and we haven't been here for six months. AHS is expensive for what I get and I haven’t been convinced it's worth the money.

American Home Shield does not tell the truth on their advertisements on TV. They make it sound like you're fully covered, which you're not. If you got insurance and they say that it covers everything, then it should do so. I was gonna call them and ask them because they always say it’s what's covered in a zombie apocalypse. If we have one, they still wouldn’t pay for everything that they should and if you read the small print of the policies, they also supply the cheapest brands on the market. They're making hundreds of millions of dollars off of their programs, so they ought to give a little bit better coverage. You end up paying a big deductible to them on every service call and I'm thinking about cancelling AHS because I don't know whether you get your money's worth out of their protection or not.

I'm still waiting for the heat pump to be refitted and be finalized but I haven't heard anything since. Still, I’d definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I have 12 apartments with American Home Shield and I use their service quite a bit. However, it is extremely frustrating when we call. They must have a call center either in India or Pakistan and I'm talking to people that I cannot understand or they don't seem to comprehend unless they read from a script. I had an issue in the past that it took an hour just for them to understand what I was trying to indicate to them for the issue. But then, my air conditioner broke recently but then I got to somebody in the States, so it was a lot easier to communicate.
I also recently submitted a claim for general plumbing issues that needed to be taken care of. Their biggest problem is that I have to wait 48 hours. When I have a leak coming through my ceiling, it's really hard to wait. I am pondering about changing companies. I used Landmark warranty and in some way, I felt that I got a faster response.

The spring on our garage door opener broke and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online and the process was very easy. The contractor that was sent saw what the problem was. He had a spring put in and recommended replacing the rollers because they were a number of years old. The door has been working fine since the repair and it opens when you press the button.

I had a problem with the refrigerator and American Home Shield sent out Hayes Appliance. The guy came out in a timely fashion and determined that the refrigerator needed some valves and some different things. He ordered the parts, they were shipped, and he came out and replaced the icemaker and fixed everything. But it takes time for the ice to work and the icemaker didn’t work, so he has to come back. They ordered a new part and he has been in touch with me and he's coming out again next week. So, I'm happy with that. I'm totally happy with American Home Shield.

Our garage door was not going up or down very well, so I submitted a claim online. The process was simple and the experience was great. It took 24 hours until a contractor from Valor came out. He was a nice kid and he was was very knowledgeable and fast. He did a really easy adjustment and there hasn't been a problem since. However, I had a previous claim before that and it took two months before they could get it fixed. I was very upset with both AHS and the contractor. The contractor had to order parts through AHS which took forever, and the contractor was terrible.

We had a backed-up drain. We called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. The reps were fine. We have used AHS before, however, there was a problem. But the recent one was amazing because when we called it in on a holiday weekend, I thought we'll have a problem again. It’ll be Tuesday or Wednesday before they call us back even though Monday was a working day. And then it’ll be two days before they come, and we were just nursing the drain line. We’d had trouble with it, and my husband finally had taken a snake and tried to clean it out, and it worked limitedly. If the washer was going, I couldn’t use any other water towards that drain in the kitchen. I didn’t put anything down the disposal after that because it would back up into the other sink.
This was around Christmas. We had a house full of people, and we had a kitchen drain. What goes through that drain point was the washer, the dishwasher, and the sink disposal. And so when we had a call into another plumber, I told him to forget about it because the drain's working if we’re careful with it. I also told him that we’ll just call AHS, and it’ll only be 75 rather than 150 or 200 dollars give or take to get somebody out.
Also, I told him to call it in now, so that they have it first thing Monday morning. I was in bed at 8 o’clock, and at 8:02, I had a phone call from them to set up an appointment for that afternoon. I have never had a response like that before from anybody. It was so much different. The last time that we called AHS, we had that plumber from Lubbock come up. It may have been my frustration as much as their problem, but I was not happy with the service at all. I felt like we were being given the run-around. But maybe I had misread that situation.
After the repair, our drains are working. We also don't have problems with the washer and the dishwasher. We don’t hear some gurgling anymore. And I know what the deal was now. We had called just a regular plumber that we have used in the past, but my husband had insisted on putting drain cleaners down it. But the drain was fixed and we’re happy. But I battle with myself every year whether we're going to renew or not. And I keep saying that maybe if I would put that premium aside every year that that would help with any repairs or any services that we may need.
I don’t like the fact that we have to depend on a plumber from Lubbock to come up, but they just have trouble getting people who work under AHS. We also had an air conditioning guy who was quitting AHS, and he was absolutely the best technician that we had. And the reason he was quitting was because AHS tried to tell him what was best for the customers. And it wasn’t that he was trying to run up a bill, but he just knew what was best for his customers, and AHS wasn’t honoring what it was the service that he said they needed.

Setting up a request is worthless. Outside temp -15F at 8am heading down, low projected to -35F and I have no heat. Over 6 hours later the request is still pending, no professional assigned. That is 4 hours after a follow-up call to expedite, which was promised. During this call I was transferred to dispatch and there lost on hold for 61 minutes before their system hung up on me! Called a local professional who is immediately on the way. While writing this review, I received a call to renew the contract purchased on referral from my realtor. Guess what, I DID NOT renew. STAY AWAY from this company, buy warranty elsewhere. We had American Home Shield for years, spend lots of money with them. Then years later, we moved and got a new contract for our 15 year old home in Colorado. In October 2018 we had a home inspector checking all appliances, HVAC and furnace prior to our purchase. Everything passed, and seemed to be in good working condition. Since the house have used appliances we decided to get them protect by American Home Shield.
Well months later, winter came and we needed to use the furnace, then we noticed it was having a hard time keeping the house warm. We placed a service request with AHS and a technician was sent after few days. Diagnostics was heating exchanger was struggling exhausting the air due to rust gradually reducing the air channels.
After a week without hearing from AHS, I called them and they said it would cost me $5,500.00 to solve the issue. And could only pay $1,500 and I have to pay $4,000.00 out of my pocket, (it's define on the fine prints of the contract). Well, since I was not aware they did not cover the entire repair cost, I decided to go for the option for cash out the $1,500.00 and choose different contractor. I told them, cash out would be fine. Then another week passed by, and never heard from them. Called them again and after a 35 minutes on hold, the representative said my cash out was denied because they consider my issue a pre-existing. How could I know there was an internal rust issue slowing degrading the heating exchanger? The home inspector checked the unit during a 70 degree weather and heater went up to 80 degree without any problems, and the A/C went down to 60 without any issue.
Anyway, they told me they could send me another contractor to get a second opinion about the issue, and if the diagnostics were the same, then I would have to pay another $100.00 and the claim would remain denied. Why they send me the first contractor if they don't trust his opinion? Am I crazy or they are big crooks? I will let you make your decision based on my own honest review. Find a local small company to do business with, and stay away from these scammers.
They served me well when I needed 15 years ago, but now they are nothing but scammers. They rather spend tons of money paying for internet campaigns, but not taking care of their clients, which are the ones that bring more customers than any internet campaign. We are in 2019, business without a pro-consumer policy will not survive, and if they don’t change the way they treat customers, they will be out of business, it's just matter of time. I am not bashing them because as revenge, but to prevent other people to fall for the same trap I did. I hope my review will help someone to choose better company.

The water wasn’t draining from the bottom of the pan of the dishwasher so I filed a claim online to AHS. AHS's website was easy to navigate and their reps were responsive. I had to reschedule, however, because of work. I work in IT and a meeting popped up, so I couldn't make it on the original date that they gave me to meet the technician here. But he got straight to the point when he arrived. I explained the issue to him and he looked at it. I told them about what I saw on the internet on how to do it. I told him what I thought the issue was, and it turned out to be that.
If I would have done the repair, I would have followed the online guide, and it would’ve had me taking the whole dishwasher apart and pulling it out. But he didn't have to do any of that. He was knowledgeable on the product and the repair. He showed me what he did and he fixed it more quickly than I thought. Now the dishwasher is operating fine and I don’t have to wash dishes by hand anymore. Excellent service and repair. I was happy all the way. We were having issues with our toilet and I called American Home Shield a couple times. We had to change a contractor because of timeframe and they couldn’t get to it quick enough. Jamie was super polite, easy to work with, was clean, and a very good guy. He also did a great job. Best Care called me and set up an appointment, then they came out, took a look at the unit and saw that it needed to be replaced. The guy showed me pictures of the cracks that the unit's condenser had, so it was a bit of a safety hazard with the carbon monoxide. Best Care sent someone else to give me some pricing on different units, and they also talked to AHS about the amount they were willing to pay on it. I accepted one of those proposals and scheduled a time for them to replace the unit. They then came back out and replaced the unit. I was very impressed with Best Care and the guy who did the work. He was very knowledgeable and informative. He explained what he was doing beforehand and showed us what he did afterwards. He also did everything to make sure that he wasn’t tracking in dirt. The heater went out and my husband went down trying to see what was wrong with it. He pulled the filter out, set the filter next to it, then put it back in because it wasn't working. I usually submit our claims with American Home Shield online, but they didn't run my renewal through, so we had to get that worked out. Once I got it all straightened out, they took the claim over the phone. NPM Heating and Cooling was the first company that was assigned to my claim. The gentleman came in and we told him what happened. He looked everything over and told my husband that the blower motor bracket had shattered on it. He said that it was gonna be a hard part for him to find and that he had up to two weeks to try and find the part.
If they couldn't find the part, then it could take them a week or two to put a new unit in. It was around 20 below zero and we couldn't afford a new one that is why we have the home warranty. We said that we would just wait to hear back from him and he left. We were thinking he was looking for the part, while we were finding ways to stay warm. Two days passed, but we heard nothing, so I decided to log into my home warranty account to see if there was any status update. And I saw that there were no claims out there.
I got American Home Shield on the phone and I said, "I don't understand this. There's no claim." The rep said they got a pending claim. I said, "No more waiting for the guy to get back to us to see if he can find the part." And they said he took a picture of our furnace without a filter and then said that that was normal wear and tear. The contractor said to them that we had been running our furnace without a filter that is why it broke down, which was completely a lie. It was completely false information.
We never run the furnace without a filter. We took the filter out when my husband was trying to figure out what was going on. The rep said that because of what the contractor said, they closed the claim and denied it. However, nobody had called me and nobody told me while we were freezing in the cold weather thinking that they were getting back to us. I would not recommend that company to be a part of the home warranty. The people who contact in a dire situation like that should not be treated that way.
When American Home Shield asked me who I wanted to come out for the second visit, Budget Heating and Cooling was the one that they gave me. They had come out in the summer to look at my air conditioner and they were awesome. They handled the claim for the heater and they were professional. The tech came immediately and diagnosed the same exact thing the previous tech did. He saw the filter was there, but because of the age of the unit, the part couldn't be found, so they recommended the replacement. He did the job the right way. That was on a Friday and the unit was replaced on Monday. They were in and out and they did a great job. American Home Shield has been fairly reliable and I highly recommend them.

And when the dishwasher man came, he hadn’t done anything. He said the dishwasher man stripped the faucet, but the dishwasher man just touched the faucet to try to turn the water off, and it kept spinning.
We had to keep waiting for them to do something and they never did, so there was a holdup. It was all messed up. They came back but they still couldn't fix the dishwasher. So we gotta get another one, and the man from American Home Shield told us what kind to get. It's the one without all those plastic hoses but just one big rubber hose and no plastic at the bottom, so the rats can't eat it. They said they don’t cover the cost for rodents and roaches. I had an issue with the pump for the filter on the pool and American Home Shield sent Pure Pool. That is the company that has come out to fix my pool for several times over the years and they are fantastic. I like them very much. But my satisfaction ends there. If it’s for air conditioning or any other problem, I seem to get a different company every time and I'm just not happy with them. In my past experience, American Home Shield contracts with people that are subpar. Those people come in and love to tell you that it’s a bigger problem that’s simply not covered. I think that’s how they make their money.
We’re also unhappy with the fact that we never succeed in talking to anyone in American Home Shield. In the very beginning, I was able to call, talk with someone and say, “This vendor is telling me I’m not covered because the installation wasn’t done properly and that’s not true.” Then they would have to send another company out. That was nice. There was personal one-on-one customer care. But they don’t have that anymore. Now, you cannot get anybody on the phone unless you have an hour and a half to spare to sit on hold. You have to do everything online so your options are pretty much black and white: what’s the problem and what part needs fixing. That’s all you can tell them then they send somebody out. It’s very impersonal and I don’t like it. We were honestly thinking that after all these years, we may not even keep AHS next year.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We've had AHS for years and we've only had one contractor we weren't happy with. Plus, they respond really fast. We had problems a few weeks ago getting our furnace fixed. When a contractor told us that AHS had sent them emails saying not to call them I thought, "Okay." We couldn't get through on the phone and we've been without heat for three days. So, we started an online chat and within an hour, it was all settled. Their online chat was awesome.
I've called AHS three times in the last four months. My heater quit and then it quit again. And then my plumbing was leaking. The first time my heater quit, they immediately sent me a link. I talked to the people. It was Friday and they said they didn't work on weekends. We were gonna be without heat for days and it was really cold. I was going through chemotherapy, too. So, I called AHS and they answered right away back then. I said that the contractor couldn't come until Monday and that it was really cold. The rep said she'd find me someone out who'd work on the weekend. That was really responsive.
Now, I haven't been able to get people on the phone like that. I'd get on, but I'd be on hold. And then I'd get disconnected. I thought these guys are crooks, but they were just changing the way they operate. They are not responsive on the phone, but they're great online. Now that we know that the phone isn't an effective way to deal with them anymore, we're okay. Two months ago, we were getting really discouraged, but that was because we didn't know how to approach them. I had a dripping faucet and the online claim submission process was super easy. It didn't take very long for On Time to get ahold of me. They were great. They were cheerful and were good communicators.

I normally submit claims to AHS on the phone because I don't like computers. When it comes on and it says the computer, I just punch to talk to a live person. If it’s on a Monday or it’s a holiday, getting through a rep might take a little longer than usual. But they have the option that I don’t have to stay on the phone. I can just punch 1 or 2 and they’ll call back to my number when it’s my turn. I recently had an issue with the switch on the wall for my fireplace. It kept going out. The contractor AHS sent was Ideal Electric, and they came right out. In less than 20 minutes, they had it done, cleaned up behind themselves, vacuumed, and left.
I’m also a Realtor and I encourage my clients to use AHS all the time because when there’s a problem, they honor it. There are a lot of home warranty companies that can be used and although there are always exceptions to the rule of perfection and professionalism, I feel like American Home Shield does their best to live up to the expectations of what their clients have. The representative that works for my company and works with me, Lindsay, went above and beyond the call of duty. She services not only me but my clients whenever there’s an issue. She always seems to have a way to make it work out for the best of the client if it’s possible. I’ve had great experiences with AHS.

I've stuck with AHS and enjoyed them. They've been good for me. However, there are a few things that I get my nose bent out of shape about, regarding how they do their deductibles. Especially, if I've got multiple issues that are interconnected. Like, when I got two issues in the kitchen with something going on with my oven and something going on with my cooktop. And I have them come out and they're both the same manufacturer. So, one guy could come out and take a look at both on the same day. But, instead, I gotta make two separate appointments and two separate deductibles, and that's a little odd sometimes. Certainly understandable but wish it wasn't the case. But other than that, I've had good luck with them. They're very responsive. Never had any contractors that are not up to par or not doing their job.
I submitted a claim to AHS because I have a double oven and one of the ovens wasn't working. The other oven would not get up to temperature the way that it was supposed to. The technicians came out, took a look at it and determined it needed several parts. And they didn't make them for that model anymore, so they replaced it. The technicians were fine. I'm planning on renewing my contract with American Home Shield when it expires in a few months. I would recommend them as well. When my furnace went out last Wednesday, it was only about 12 hours after I had submitted the request that the contractor was at my house, fixing my furnace. I'm in Chicago and the air temperature here was 25 below zero. It was 50 degrees in my house. I put the claim in online and the website is really easy to navigate. The contractor called me the following morning then they came out that afternoon. Two guys showed up, took off their boots at the door and then went down to the furnace. Apparently, there was a broken part. They came back with the replacement part and about 45 minutes after they got here, they were done.

My furnace was making a buzzing noise. My power bill had been very high and someone suggested I just get my unit checked. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very easy. The first time I used their service, I made a phone call. But thereafter, found out that I could do it online through which I could just click a button, say what I need and somebody gets back to me immediately. The response is almost instantaneous.
AHS' reps were very friendly. Any information I needed, they had it readily available. I dealt with them for a plumbing issue and they were very helpful. They contacted the plumber for me right away, told me what they covered and explained any fees that might happen. The plumber got back to me within an hour. The plumber was excellent as well as the heating agent who was here more recently. They're very knowledgeable in their field and get out to my place right away. Overall, it's a delight to have AHS' service. I recommend them.

I call American Home Shield to submit claims since it is a lot easier to explain what is going on and why you need the service. But one problem I have is trying to find someone who can respond quickly to the need. I wish that we can get somebody to go faster when we come up on an emergency. When American Home Shield selects whoever is next to come out in the queue, the timeline is not good. In fact, that is the problem I am having right now.
They assigned my plumbing problem to one agency but the timeline was not good. And my kitchen sink has been inoperable since the 1st of the month. It went to one company but we had to change because they were backed up. I had to find another company that could do it a little quicker. But the things that American Home Shield has to go back through to contract whoever to get a faster service causes a slowdown. Then getting parts is also slow. Right now, I’m still waiting on parts and trying to get somebody here to get it fixed.
Nonetheless, I have been with American Home Shield for years and I’ve had good service with them. I would recommend them highly. I had a heating claim with Dawson Service which was referred to another firm due to the fact that it became a plumbing problem. Dawson referred it back to AHS and AHS reassigned it to another firm. The contractor has come out and looked at it, and hopefully, we’ve got that resolved.
Hello, Chester. I regret to hear that your plumbing issue wasn't resolved as quickly as necessary. Thank you for your patronage over the years and for the overall positive feedback.

I submitted claims with American Home Shield regarding my icemaker, washing machine, and the dishwasher at the same time, but they didn't get it all repaired at the same time. I submitted the claims over the phone and it was a terrible procedure since they put me on hold forever. If they can afford to charge me $50 a month, then maybe they can afford to hire some people to answer the phone. They first did the icemaker and the washing machine. The contractors who came out was from Lindi Corporation and they were fine. It took them a while to get the parts and schedule a time to be here, but they came over and fixed both of them the same day. Since the repair, bot appliances are working fine.
With the dishwasher, we replaced it because AHS was unable to procure the appropriate repair parts. However, the two fellows that delivered it didn’t have the expertise to install it with the way my house was plumbed, which is normal for the homes in this area. So, they just delivered it. And then, I had to make some more of those forever phone calls for a representative to schedule Lindi to come over and actually install the dishwasher. It's been working well.
I checked on the model number that they wanted to give me. I went over to Lowe’s in St. George, which is about 50 miles from here, and looked at their dishwashers, and I found one I liked a bit better than the model number they gave me and it was the same brand. Lowe’s was selling the better model for about $90 more than the standard model, but when I actually ordered that model through American Home Shield insurance, they charged me $214, which to me sounded like I was clipped a bit.
I also found that earlier in the year, when they did my water heater, I thought they would just come in, put in a new water heater, and that would be fine. But I ended up paying almost $500 because they said it had to be strapped to the wall. It hadn’t had an air tank, and they had to procure a permit from the city. AHS didn’t like copper pipes that were connected. They wanted to change it to their stainless steel one. So, all in all, my free water heater cost me 500 bucks. Those were the things I've not been very happy with, but the most frustrating thing of all dealing with this insurance company was the long wait to actually talk to a person.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.
