AHS is a Fraud company. I created a service ticket for a minor repair on my dishwasher (malfunctioning soap dispenser and low water pressure in the upper rack). The market value of my dishwasher when I bought it a few years back was $850. Now AHS is forcing me to take the cash out option of $120. They claim my dishwasher door hinges are bent so it's deemed un-repairable. I didn’t even ask for the repair of the bent hinges, for me, it's just a cosmetic issue. The dishwasher is still in great shape and it can work for at least 3-4 yrs. They promised to repair the dishwasher to begin so I was waiting for them to get back to me. I didn’t hear back from them in weeks so when I called them back (after 4 rounds of back and forth calls with different agents) they say it has been decided that cash out option is the only option for me. This is ridiculous considering that I paid $75 for the service ticket, all I’m getting is $45 for the dishwasher (120-75 = 45).

I got my American Home Shield warranty in the process of buying the house. I’ve submitted several claims online and things worked fine. Recently I had an issue that turned out to be a bad gas valve on the furnace. The tech from Mel’s Preventative Maintenance showed up early the next morning and replaced it. While he did a great job, I had another tech who came out because I had an issue with the washer and he didn't feel like dealing with it. He resubmitted the claim to have another company come out and look at it. I took time off work to show up at the house to have him come in and spend two minutes looking at it. Also, I had an issue that wasn’t covered under the contract. I had techs come out and they told me that it was not covered. I couldn't blame them though because this was caused by my own negligence. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield.

One of our heating systems was not turning on and we were having trouble understanding the settings. But the tech from Crispy Air and Heating was able to find the problem, find the solution, explain it to me and take care of it while he was here. The service is great. In fact, I have no complaints about the companies that American Home Shield has sent out.

When I submit claims, I prefer to do it online. The website is fairly user-friendly and it's easy enough to go on there. I had to call to make a claim once and I was on hold for a good 25 minutes. That was pretty disappointing and frustrating. I was unable to make the claim online because it said that I had a balance due. I had called five times to have American Home Shield sort that out and take it off because it was an unwarranted charge. It was something I had already paid but they charged me twice for it. They had found the error and sent it to their account department. But their account department hasn’t taken it off.

American Home Shield keeps saying that it has been taken off. In their system, they see the notes that it has been sent to the account department and that it has been removed. But when I pulled up my account as of the last service request I made, the charge was still showing up on my account. That's my biggest complaint and that would also be a reason why I may not renew the home warranty with them once mine expires. I will buy another home warranty but it may or may not be with American Home Shield depending on how they take care of that issue.

A&M Pool Service and Repair came out after I submitted a claim with AHS. They worked on the pool heater and the cleanout valve. It's the best pool service I've ever had. They called quickly, scheduled and kept me informed. They showed up whenever they said they’d show up. The pool wasn't actually working last year when it was hot in the middle of the summer, and American Home Shield didn’t have anybody to send out because they said that they couldn’t come to my area when it was peak swim time. So, I waited until it wasn’t peak swim time to get the work done, and they did a good job. They send somebody out to fix things at a good price.

There was an issue with the water. Water would come out of the faucet then it would just stop. When I called to make the appointment, I got an automated thing. Then they gave me options of what I was calling about and I chose water heater because that's the closest to what I needed. But my water heater is fine. NW Sundance Services came out that day, which was great, and the contractor totally fixed the issue. He went ahead and explained to me how it worked then we tried to get the faucet out front to work. He couldn't do it without making a hole in the wall because he couldn't tell. He couldn't find anything to turn that faucet on. But he explained everything to me and he got us all set up. It was wonderful. He was great and I told him that too. I was definitely happy.

I had two claims for an AC since I have two different compressors. One issue with the AC was on the igniter in which the tech was able to fix on the spot, while the other one needed a new control panel in which the tech said he had to place a part order. The order came in before he said it would, and he was able to come out and fix the control panel on the other one. I was satisfied with the turnaround time and with the tech coming out and fixing the AC.

We have a five-year-old and it was extremely cold and as far as the 10 or 20-degree days. It was crazy when the AC was not working, so I was satisfied with the fact that the tech was able to come out and at least get one of the compressors working. We also didn’t have to play too much of a waiting game with the other part. It came in within days and he was able to come out the same day or the next day that the part came in. The day-to-day was a little excruciating, but it was nothing on the lag time with American Home Shield or the companies that they contracted to come out. The contractors were professional, timely, thorough, and simple within the explanation of what was going on.

There was also some slow drainage in the shower, so a plumber came out for that and once he came and did whatever he did, it was fixed. We've had American Home Shield since May 19, 2017, and I’m interested in getting more policies. I am also interested in doing more because I have four properties, but I only have American Home Shield covering one of them. I would like to cover all three of them, but I can’t endure another $1,500 just on insurance.

My heater and air conditioning unit quit working and when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, the experience was smooth and seamless. I went online and requested a service. They had it categorized and I paid my service fee. They contacted me right away and sent somebody out. The contractors were great and very helpful, but they haven't resolved my issue and haven't called me back in a few days. It has been really cold and the unit is still not working. My wife and I both work from home, so it has been a very difficult experience. On the other hand, everything went awesome for the other claim where Bradley Appliance Repair came out. I submitted the claim and the tech came right out. They had to order a part which was back sooner than expected and the unit was up and running. The tech got everything good. American Home Shield has been great.

Our hot water tank was leaking from the bottom and submitting a claim for that was super simple. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield remotely for my husband. Within a few hours of submitting a claim, someone would be contacting my husband and setting up an appointment. So it’s very quick. The contractor, Snappy Plumbing & Heating, even came out that same day. He looked at the hot water tank and was able to assess very quickly that we would need a new one. He ordered it and it took them a few days to pin down the one that we needed.

We've been with American Home Shield since 2013 and every contractor they’ve sent has been very helpful and right on point with everything. All the experiences that we’ve had with them have been excellent. They provide dependability and we receive high quality of service each time that we have to call in for anything, either from the people at AHS themselves or the folks that they send out to help us. We absolutely love American Home Shield. They provide a great service and we recommend it to all of our friends, especially to their kids who are buying a brand new home for the first time. It’s a nice, extra peace of mind.

Something was wrong with my gas furnace. The motor would try to start and then there'd be nothing. All of a sudden, it would come on with a fierceness and it wouldn't blow right. I call American Home Shield to submit my claims and they send acknowledgement stuff to my daughter who keeps track of things and helps me. AHS sent out a very nice young man from Arizona TradeMasters. This was my first experience with that company and they were good. The contractor was very clean and friendly and he listened to me. I've also never been educated on heaters and he explained to me what it was, even on his phone. He found out that I had a bad blower motor and a bad wheel thing in it. Then I asked him to come out one extra time because I kept hearing this noise. He also showed me this little short film so I would be more alert about certain things. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

We had a dryer fail and it would not heat. American Home Shield's reps were efficient in identifying a contractor and appropriately found someone that was geographically close although he drove from Marysville which is a small drive. Pacific Appliance came and brought a large van. Joe, who works for the company and is also one of its owners, got the information on what the dryer was and brought the parts with him on the visit. He repaired the appliance, removed the lint from its interior and checked the entire appliance out. He did an outstanding job with that. He installed the appropriate thermistor and got the dryer running right away on the first visit.

He made sure the dryer duct was clear so there would not be a repeated problem with overheating and the thermistor burning out. He checked the dryer out for other problems. There was a poorly functioning filter, and he ordered a new one for the dryer to improve the lint catching. He drove by and inserted that into the dryer one week later. He was very professional, efficient and thorough. He was watching out for AHS to prevent recurrence of a problem and the need for a repeated visit, and setting the appliance up for success. He was a win for the owner and for AHS. Pacific Appliance was one of the best contractors I've ever worked with. I'm glad that AHS chose and supported an independent, local contractor for the job.

We just bought the house and we asked the seller to include American Home Shield. He paid for the basic parts and then we paid for the swimming pool addition. I call AHS and tell them about my claim. So far, I have called in three things and they had three different vendors contact me. The microwave rep came after I left town, but my sister let him in. He thought it was a part so he ordered it and it was in. But, I haven’t been back to the house so it has to wait until I get back there. And if that part fixes it, then I’ll be happy. Also, the locksmith was supposed to come but didn’t. I was called a week later wanting to schedule it but by that time, I was no longer there. So, it has to wait until I get back too.

Then, when we had an electrical issue, AHS sent R & R Electrical Allstar. They called and asked if they could come early. I said “Yes” and it turned out that inside the exhaust fan is a sensitivity adjustment and somebody turned it all the way down. So, they turned it up and it worked. I have had mixed experiences with American Home Shield so far and I have to wait and see how it goes when I get the other two done which will not be until the end of March or beginning of April.

We've been an American Home Shield customer since 2005 when we bought our first house in Winston Salem. We renewed it and kept going since then. The representatives were excellent in their customer service. In a recent claim, our furnace was only operating at a minimal mode. It has two burners and one of those wasn't working at all except intermittently. There was also a very loud noise coming from the unit so it obviously had a serious problem. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and then a guy from Aspire Heating & Air came out. He diagnosed the problem correctly and he worked efficiently. He ordered the part, came back, and replaced it. He also did a thorough check of all the other pieces and made a couple of other repairs that were related to the issue. He was exceptionally good and I couldn't have hoped for a better tech. Since the repair, the unit has functioned perfectly.

The drain in our basement was clogged and there was a couple of inches of water in our basement. This happened on a Friday. I called American Home Shield and got a friendly rep. It was great and really quick. J&M was contracted and they were very nice but they ended up coming on a Tuesday. They got the problem cleared for a couple of days but it happened again. We were told the issue was a tree root and that was not covered under our home warranty plan since it took place outside the home. We ended up having to hire a different plumber to come in and take care of it.

I consider my home warranty very valuable in case something major were to happen because we are a really young family. This is our first house so we can’t necessarily pay out of pocket for a major expense at this time. With this particular claim, I was very satisfied with AHS' customer service and with the result that I got in the end.

I had a stove that had shorted out underneath and the young man that came out was excellent and repaired it in no time at all. It was a simple fix. American Home Shield's service is excellent and that is the only reason I'm still sticking around. They always come through very nicely and they have good subcontractors. However, I was renewing my subscription or my annual contract and I was very upset in the rates that they've instituted. I asked the rep to put in the complaint for me to someone of authority that could call me back and I could voice my opinion on that. I'd like to talk to somebody and let them know how I feel about it because I am the customer.

They've increased my cost by 60% over the course of the year. I have been paying around 225 in change and now, I'm paying 309 for the same coverage, and that was just a one-year jump. That was out of line. And it was with the $50 discount that they gave me because I have four contracts with them. I had one rate increase, then it stayed the same for two years. Then, all of a sudden, I got hit like that. If all four of my contracts go up that price, I will be looking for another company to do my bidding. I expected that there would be an increase at some point, but I wasn't expecting a 60% increase. They need to take a look at their cost of living indexing. As far as the rate increase, I'm very dissatisfied, but as far as the service, I'm very satisfied.

Apparently, I have to go all the way to the bottom of their page in order to make a claim. AHS' website should have something on the top of the page. All it does on the first page is to try and get me to buy a warranty from them which is not helpful for people who are trying to make a claim. But the repair company came out the next day. They replaced one thing but that didn't work. They then replaced another thing. The third time they came out, they put in two new pieces in the unit. The serviceman from Home Pro Refrigeration and Appliance came over to my place. He looked at it and diagnosed the problem. He had it recorded on his tablet and said that the icemaker was damaged. He said that they would replace the icemaker then I signed over that on his tablet. We also mentioned about the stovetop and he looked at the knobs on the stove and said that they were gonna replace them too. A month went by and nothing happened.

A lady came back two weeks later and told me that we’d have to have the stovetop knobs available for them to look at. It wasn't good, either. The stovetop knob was broken and we threw it away. We had no idea that we had to keep them. Since we couldn’t keep them and have them available, then we cannot claim for them. A month went by and nobody came back again. I had to call back to AHS and asked them what is going on with the claim. The lady told me that nothing was sent to them from the company and I find that surprising. American Home Shield is a good company. When we have something break, they always get someone here quickly. I have had them for around eight years now and I typically call them to submit my claims. I tell them what's wrong, then they ask for my phone number and they send somebody. My most recent claim was for the water heater, but I also submitted a claim for my washer. Both of them broke, so I couldn't take a shower and I couldn't wash clothes. The tech from A+ Appliance Service & Repair came out for the washer right away after he got the call and he figured out what he needed. He had to order it and once it came in, he kept us in the loop for when it was coming in and he called me, so I wasn’t worried if he forgot about us. And when he said he was gonna show up, he showed up and he fixed the washer. He was a very nice person and it was good that he got the issues fixed.

My furnace wasn’t keeping the temperature that it was set to. It was a previous issue where I opened up a claim with American Home Shield and a tech came out and changed the flame sensor. He said that everything was fixed but later on that night, it started doing the exact same thing. I did another claim with American Home Shield. I did it online and the process was very simple.

The contractor who came the first time didn’t seem very knowledgeable. And so, the second time, when I put the claim in, I asked AHS if they could send another company because the technician was not very knowledgeable on the furnaces. He was making phone calls like he wasn’t very knowledgeable. AHS told me that their protocol was to use the same technician because he already knew what the issue was. So, the same guy who came out the first time was the one who came out the second time. His service wasn’t really good. I wasn’t really satisfied with it.

He came out during the daytime. He said that he saw that the thermostat was still keeping the temperature that it was set to. I told him that it usually happens at nighttime when the temperature drops. And I had a video of what it was doing which I showed him. He told me that he couldn’t figure out what the issue was, and that if we had further issues, I can just contact AHS and they would send them out again. AHS sends out technicians from Tidewater Mechanical. And most of the time, they are not very knowledgeable and not very presentable.

The dishwasher wasn't connected securely to the inside cabinet so the technician came in and secured it, and that was it. We had a claim for plumbing too and that also went very well. I would recommend American Home Shield. So far, everything has been done the way I thought it should be and the technicians they've sent out were very good.

We purchased our Bosch washing machine in 2007. We bought the washer and the matching dryer. With the Bosch washer, I can’t turn the dial anymore to choose a wash. The dial is not movable and the parts are no longer available. In fact, the appliance itself is discontinued. We loved having that set because it did a great job, but now we don’t have anything except the dryer. I filed a claim for the washer with American Home Shield over the phone and it was simple to do. We filed it on a Thursday, and then we had the repairman on Saturday afternoon.

The repairman didn’t take the washer out yet because we have to look and see what is available, which we’ve been doing. We’ve looked online, and today, we’ll go out to a Home Depot store and look at the washers and decide what we want, being that the old one is no longer available. We’re trying to select a washer that will take its place. AHS gave me one washer to consider and we looked at it online. We saw it in the store but it does not have all the features that we had on this Bosch. We had the top-of-the-line when we bought this Bosch, so we’re looking for something that has a number of cycles that we had on this one.

Other than that, we had a problem with the furnace a month ago, and we called AHS. They sent out a repairman and he knew exactly what the problem was. He opened up the door of the furnace. He took off the filter, washed it out in the sink, put it back in, and the furnace was fine ever since. When a repairman comes, we always watch what they do. It's for our own opinion of how the problem was solved, and then we can report that to AHS if they send us a survey. But the repairmen have always been very good. AHS always sees that when the repairmen come here, that our appliances are immaculate. We take very good care of everything and they always thank us for that. And it helps them solve the problem quicker too.

We have been with AHS for 17 years here. We were in Arizona for nine years and we had AHS there also. We like them and they’ve taken very good care of us. The copays and the new coverage every year keep going up, but it saves us from calling a repairman from wherever and not knowing if they’re going to be reliable. With AHS, we've had very good luck with the repairmen they've sent.

And once I get somebody to answer the phone, it takes them 24 hours to get to whoever they're gonna schedule, then they have to get back to you. It just takes a lot of steps in-between. Then, when I had the problem again, I called them up and they came back right away. We tried something else and so far, I haven't had any problems. While these techs were knowledgeable, AHS doesn't always send the most experienced folks. They seemed to be young folks and just starting out in their experience fields. Also, I find scheduling things online to be a whole lot easier than spending half an hour on the telephone, waiting for them to pick up. Still, AHS themselves have been helpful and prompt.

Our garage door opener wouldn't work. We couldn’t open it unless we disconnected the whole thing and then try to manually get it up. It's really heavy. We're both 71 and it was 25 below zero. My husband was trying to get up there and figure out what was going on with it. Standing on the ladder in that cold garage, he just said he could hear the motor growling but it just would not budge.

So I called a claim in. Usually, I find that if you call it in, you really get a technician much sooner. The guy was out there within two hours. I was very pleased with that. He showed up early and was decent, polite and worked really hard. With that kind of job, you gotta have your hands free to be putting an installation in that weather with no gloves or anything on. AHS has gotta give him kudos for, number one, showing up so early, and number two, just being that kind of work out in the cold and then still being very pleasant and doing a good job. It has been a couple of weeks since he put it in and so far, all is well.

It’s very nice to have a plan like this in cases like this garage door opener in the dead of winter or that one time when we had a hot water heater go which more than paid for the $500 we pay for in a year. We've moved quite a bit in the last 15 years and AHS has been a really good, solid plan. It's the best insurance, to spend 75 bucks a month for overall insurance of your home.

I was able to talk to an American representative and they refunded the money. I just had to show the sales contract. I still feel their processes need to be made better. Up until the last person I spoke to, no one ever said that if I could show them the sales contract and that I if no longer owned the home, they would refund the fees. The attitude was that there was nothing they could do except cancel the current month’s payment. Also, a simple way to cancel and remove my CC details from them online would make a big difference. It all feels like a way to make it hard to leave. I am glad they refunded the money, but they also never should have charged me for that.

    Original Review: Feb. 26, 2019

I used them for several years. Their service was good and we did get a few things covered by them, though there was a lot we usually had to pay, including a 75 charge just for someone to show up and look at an issue, which is the same as calling a contractor directly. The real problem is that I sold my home in October of 2017. I am sure I called them then to cancel and they said they would but not until the contract expired in Feb 2018. This did not happen. They renewed it. They said they have no record of my call and that there was nothing they could do.

Now it is Feb 2019 and again they say I never called them and never canceled. They just told me that they can now cancel it, but actually it is not a cancellation until their retention department talks to me (to try to talk me into another contract). They said they could not send me an email confirmation of this cancellation, so they can just go on saying I never canceled. It's like a scam, which has cost me about 800 so far and I have still not managed to get it canceled. I have to wait for a call from their retention department. There is no way to cancel online or to remove your credit card online. Beware!

An hour after they left I noticed the house was extremely hot and found out that even though the thermostat was off the heat kept blowing. Spent countless hours already trying to get someone to understand this, but their customer service folks have a limited grasp of the English language and terrible training so I can’t get anyone to come back out to fix what they broke. This was on a Thursday.

AHS sent another contractor, they confirmed already what we had examine from a reputable company and said AHS would contact me cause I need a new heater. The heater is covered however no modifications are to put the new heater in so you are still going to get hit over the head for at least 1000.00-2000.00 and not only that you have to wait several more days before they can do it. I have been dealing with a broken furnace for some time due to the fact that AHS will not select a reputable contractor. The initial contractor, Rapps Heating and Air (Rapps), inspected the furnace in April of 2018. During that service call, Rapps determined one of the furnace parts did not function properly. Rapps did not actually come back to repair the part until 6 months later in October 2018. AHS actually tried to charge the service fee again even though I had already paid for that visit. Since the furnace is still not functioning, I recently requested service on the furnace. Once again Rapps was selected by AHS to perform the service.

At this point I contacted AHS to request a different contractor. AHS stated that this was the only contractor in the local area. My home (location of the Furnace) is Shelby, NC. Rapps is located over an hour away. There are other qualified contractors located a much shorter distance away in both Shelby and Gastonia. Regardless, AHS insists upon using Rapps. Once Rapps completed the most recent diagnostic, they stated I needed a new furnace. However, Rapps outlined each of the items that would not be covered by AHS and each item for which I would be responsible. I did some more research and half of the items are not required by any local (Shebly, NC) code. Rapps falsely stated these items were required by 'code' and they also tried to charge me $400 dollars for a permit when the permit is only $50 dollars (City and County Clerk Office, Shelby, NC).

After I did this research, I contacted AHS to request either a different vendor or to pay the amount that is the actuary average to complete the furnace replacement. I spoke with Latonya **, and she indicated that AHS would place Rapps on the 'do not' use vendor list for me, and that AHS would locate another vendor to service the repair. Ms. ** was going to discuss this matter with another department and get back with me in 2 hours. This phone conversation took place on Wednesday, February 20 at 6:17 am Mountain Standard Time. I have yet to receive a return call from Ms. **.

In our conversations, Ms. ** stated she would get another vendor to do the diagnostic and repair. AHS sent another vendor to look at the furnace. This new vendor confirmed the replacement was necessary. However, this vendor stated the items needed to be modified or changed were different than those outlined by Rapps. The new total price was also $493 Dollars less than Rapps statement of charges. Secondly, I was informed that AHS would be liable for a little over $1,000 dollars of the repair if I chose to utilize this new vendor. The new contractor informed me that AHS should contact me to discuss further steps.

I contacted AHS who stated they would provide the COD for the second vendor. I have the entire chat on record. However, AHS now states that I HAVE TO USE the first vendor; even though I already have proof of, and have contacted local authorities regarding the fraud Rapps is committing. Rapps is not welcome in my home. I have had independent contractors that are licensed, bonded and insured and those contractors have stated affirmatively that the furnace needs to be replaced and that the only item needing to be replaced is the furnace itself and the corresponding flue. I believe AHS is STILL participating in Bad Faith Insurance practices and litigation will be required if AHS continues to refuse/not honor AHS's (Ms. **'s) statement allowing use of a different vendor. I believe AHS and AHS's contractors are behaving unethically and may be guilty of fraudulent activities.

I used the electrical trimmer in the outlet in the Fall and then next used it 4 months later when I realized the outlet was not working again. AHS said they could only have someone go out there for an 'additional service fee'. I would have to pay $75 for each service visit.

They offered to have a new provider come by instead of prior electrician but would still have to pay the $75 because it was past the 60 days. The response was, 'it was in your contract." It seems like not much money to pay $75 but it is the principle of not standing behind an issue and service company given varying circumstances. I know I should have checked it at 59 days but with both of us being busy professionals plus 2 kids, who have limited time to pay attention to everything. Some understanding of the situation would have been nice. In the end, you get what you pay for and AHS in not worth it.

I used to call American Home Shield for my claims and it's usually a long time. One time, we had an issue with our air and the people that came out said that they had to get approval from AHS before they could fix it. After about a couple of days and we haven't heard from the people, we tried to call AHS and I waited 40 minutes to get to somebody. The wait time is just crazy. They should have an option where you don't have to wait as much if it was something about an order that's already put in.

And then, I had a problem where my toilet was just making running noise but the water wasn't getting back into the commode, and filed my claim online. It's easy to do that online but I don't like doing so. I have a couple of companies that I don't like to use since I've had bad experiences with them, and when I do the claims online, it just assigns me somebody. For instance, we've had bad experiences with Tiger Plumbing but AHS sent Tiger Plumbing for my toilet even though they're supposed to be on our do not use list. But we had a good experience with them this time.

They called us beforehand to see what was going on, which was a good thing. From the conversation, he knew what was wrong so when he came he must've run by the shop to get the part. Then when he looked, it was indeed what he thought was wrong. He was only here for 10 minutes and did a simple repair, and he had fixed the problem instead of having to come out and find what's wrong, and then go back to the shop and come back.

When I had a rental house many years ago, they had to replace several systems and they even put in new duct work. That’s huge. When you own a home or a rental property, you can’t afford $7,000 here or $10,000 there. So, it’s really a wonderful service to have.

However, every business has its issues. It really depends on the contractor that they send out. We had a leak in a shower. The first time I reported the problem, the guy who was sent out didn’t have what he needed and came at 6:45 in the evening. The second time that provider came out, he didn’t fix it totally, so I had to call him back a third time. That’s when I requested Hudgens Plumbing. The company had done plumbing for us several years ago, so I called them up and asked them if they were still a provider for AHS and they said yes. I then called American Home Shield back and asked them to send Hudgens Plumbing out. The tech from Hudgens Plumbing was able to fix the shower completely and did an excellent job. I really love Hudgens Plumbing.

I filed two claims within the same week to AHS. One was for my heat pump outside and the second one was for my toilet that had a running leak in it. I called AHS and they responded right away. They gave me the names of the contractors and texted the information of those companies. I called the contractors and in the case of the plumbing claim, the guy who came out was very professional. He provided great customer service.

For the heat pump claim, my AC system outside was making a loud noise. The techs came and serviced my pump. However, they had to order a part and it took them about a week. Still, the tech was professional. He wore his little coverall boots so he wouldn’t get any dirt or anything on my carpet. He told me exactly what he was gonna do and told me about the part that was being ordered. Also, the tech had to put the heat on emergency heat. He said it’s so that the heat pump outside wouldn’t damage any other part by continuing to run. I've had AHS since 1997 and I like the convenience of their warranty if something goes wrong. I can just pick up the phone, call them and their contractors come right out. What I don't like about the service is the $125 but in the long run, it has been worth it.

My first claim with American Home Shield was on the washing machine. I called them and they sent a tech from King Appliances to look at it. The tech said that the washing machine dogs and the lid open indicator were missing. He then told me he didn’t know if AHS was gonna fix it or not because these things were missing from the machine. So, they didn’t fix it, and I was out of 75 bucks. I also filed a claim with AHS online when my HVAC wasn’t blowing hot air. I had AHS set up an appointment, and they sent someone from Ice Cube Air. The technician came and he went up on the roof. He determined that it was the motor for the HVAC. He replaced the motor and then went on his way.

When submitting a claim with AHS over the phone, the wait is extremely long. If they have a callback, that would be nice. I prefer submitting my claims online because of the wait to get to the representative. Also, navigating through their website is easy. It asks me what exactly the issue is and I push whichever breaks it down.

Then I got a notification that the contractor would come out within two days. Their action was quick. The contractor had to order the part because they don’t have the parts with them. Then he returned and installed the part. If we would have an issue in a few weeks, then we would contact them back but it has been okay so far. I would recommend American Home Shield.

They sent out a technician from Total Air Care to do the inspection. He told me that one source was overlooked, which was very minor and they replaced it. Generations came out for the AC and the guy was perfect. He was on time and he was very helpful. They asked us if we should change the unit. I’ve had a couple of claims that I’ve submitted to American Home Shield and it has generally been good. I’ve done it either online or through the phone. My most recent one was for a heating issue. There was just cold air blowing from my heater. I was very happy with the contractor. He was very helpful, quick, efficient and he showed up whenever he said he would. However, it was a hit or miss with some of the other ones who came out.

When my gas was out, AHS sent a gas company and they thought that they could just smell for the leak, even though my gas wasn’t turned on. The gas company told me that my gas was out and whenever they went to turn my gas on, there was a leak. I thought that you would want equipment to see if that’s where the leak is. AHS sent out a second person and the person verified that there was a leak but didn’t determine where the leak was coming from. They were putting a hold on a lot of things and I was waiting to move in to my house, so I could have gas. I was able to get a good contractor through another person to come out and look at it.

We have had American Home Shield for almost a year and my first call to them was for a heating issue. I had no heat and it was not holding temperature so I called up for a service guy to come out. I wanted them to check the ducts and the heating system. All my vents are in the floor and some appear to be blowing cold air and some did not. So, the guy came and checked the inside system. Everything was okay and then he went outside. He said it may or may not need some Freon but it was hard to tell because it was cold out and that it looks like it probably just needed a cleaning.

I told him it had been cleaned over the summer. He told me that since I have dogs and with the dog hair and stuff, it was gonna be nice that weekend to buy awesome stuff from Family Dollar and have it sprayed there and hose the outside system. I did all that and then, I did not have heat again. I was not super impressed with the guy that came, just because he was like “Well, clean it yourself. Rock on.” So, I called my old guy who came in. He said that it was hard to tell about the Freon when it’s cold and he told me to let him put a pound in which cost me $80. He also asked if the house was ever checked. I told him it was not so he went to look under in the crawlspace. The main trunk line duct was lying on the ground so, he put it back up.

He was a great guy and very reasonable. But I figured that I have the home warranty so I would use it. I asked him but he said that he was not part of it and it was cool. So, I called Home Shield, and I dealt with the other customer service girls who were all like midgets out of Thailand. They were saying that I was looking to get my deductible of $106.75 back because the guys didn’t really do anything and they certainly didn’t diagnose the problem. It went on for a couple of weeks. They kept telling me that they have to get a work order from the company that came. They also said that they were not required to supply it because it wasn’t over X amount of dollars and they had to request it.

It went on for two weeks until finally, somebody verbally gave them a work order over the phone. Then, the midget from Thailand told me to send her copies of the bill from the guy who repaired it. I told them I got a picture of the main trunk line lying down on the crawlspace and I had been trying to get to them for three weeks. I was told to send it to her. I did that about two weeks and as soon as I sent that through email at, I got an automated response that said it could take up to something like 61 days to review my claim and that is where I’m at right now.

I didn’t realize I was gonna have a problem when the technicians left and I signed off on their little cellphone and to think that I’ve been heating my crawlspace for two weeks. I knew I had a major issue because I was spending $50 a day in electric. So, $500 worth of electric later, I knew it was more than a dirty system. I just wish to get a hold of those midgets from Thailand and get this ball rolling on, whether or not I can get my $106 deductible back.

Burleson, one of American Home Shield's contractors, did a very good job of taking care of my problem and I had no issues with them. However, I had a problem with Total Air. The tech said there were things that needed to be done to the heater/air conditioner that were not necessary. I had it looked at an independent air conditioning company here in Gainesville. I tried to pay them the service fee, and the guy said that was already been prepaid which he already did with what he turned in to AHS. He even wrote “Pre-paid” on my receipt. But now, I’m getting a bill from AHS saying that my account is past due because of a service fee that wasn’t paid to Total Air.

Of all the technicians that I’ve had out here, there have only been two of them who were very disheartening, and one being the Total Air gentleman, Chris. And there was also a gentleman a few years ago who came out to service my washing machine and said he came all the way from Jacksonville and asked me if I could give him money for gas to get home, which I thought was inappropriate.

Also, there have been instances when it has taken forever to get people out here and then people calling and rescheduling. One company took three rescheduling times. The guy’s car broke down on Interstate. It was raining, and he couldn't work in the rain. And then the third time, he came and while he had just gotten out of the car, barely started, not even enough to get his clothes wet, and again, he said couldn’t work in the rain and that I had to reschedule which would've made it a fourth time.

Filing a claim for it online with American Home Shield was easy and straightforward though a phone option would be nice. The first person who came out was from Sears Repair. The problem was that to fix it was gonna be more than just to replace it. Their tech said that somebody would be calling about a replacement. This company called ACN Appliance Sales called and came out the very next day which I appreciated. Their tech said that he got all the information and said that they'd have to see if a part was available, which on Hawaii Island, is always an issue.

It was not too long though. In less than a week, he called and said the installer would call to pick up the part. Then, the installer came right out and I was really happy because when it went out before when it was on a five-year Lowe’s home warranty, it took about four weeks for them to get the part. The installer from ACN was very careful because it was still iced over. He used a steamer which I thought was clever and carefully melted the ice. He didn’t damage other parts. He was careful with my floor because it's laminate. I really appreciated their care and they really did a nice job. They also communicated well, which here on the island sometimes is an issue. I am having trouble again with the icemaker, however. It's icing up again, so I have to call them. Other than that issue, AHS' service really worked and it has been timely.

I have filed claims with American Home Shield on several items. One was the stove, then a ceiling fan, an exhaust fan in the bathroom, and the garage door opener. I submitted my claims over the phone, but I don’t think the reps knew what they were talking about or what they were doing. I come from the construction field, so I told them what the issues were and explained these to them. They always took my $100 or $50 deposit, and they said that I was good to go. But then, when the techs showed up, they said that the issue was routine maintenance. But if the problem was not fixed, then it would cost more damage to the property. There have been instances when AHS took my deposit but did nothing. Nevertheless, the appliances that the techs were able to fix were good to go. With AHS, though, I’ve got to where I wait till I have six items and then I call them. At least, if they fix one or two items, then it's worth what it would cost for that deductible.

The garage door opener was fixed because that was 100% broken. My ceiling fan in the garage was also done. But then, with my exhaust fan, the guy even said that he could hear it whining off and on which means it had a bad bearing. But he said that if he replaced it then, that would be considered as maintenance and won’t be covered by my warranty, even though it would be completely out in the next five months. The contractors more or less agree with my stance, but it’s one of those situations that you just beat your head up against the wall. AHS should be more proactive in fixing broken stuff and not wait until it’s 100% broken since a bearing can heat up, melt stuff, and cause a fire.

American Home Shield is very good, professional and quick to solve the problem. I had an issue late December and because of the holiday the contractor couldn’t come up to check. I had water leaking under my sink. I also had a problem with the showerhead in one of my sons' bathroom. But as soon as the contractor came in, he took a look at it and figured out the garbage disposal needed to be replaced.

Then, this month, I had water leaking under the sink again. It went down to the basement. It was awful because we didn’t know what happened. I thought "Did the air conditioning get blocked up?” I tried to pinpoint what happened until I came upstairs and thought I'd take a look under the sink, even though there shouldn’t be anything and there was water all over. I thought it had something to do with before, but it didn’t really get worse until this month. When the person came, he figured out that the hose spray for the faucet in the kitchen was loose. He tightened it up. He said that hopefully, it wouldn’t happen again. But showed how to tighten the spray thing for the faucet.

At the very beginning, I had a hard time submitting claims. When I call, I get sent all over the place or put on hold and I have to keep on explaining things. So I decided to go online and talk to someone. And boom, I got in touch with somebody and they took care of it. It was not like they didn’t do their job, but AHS is a big company and they deal with a lot of people and I don’t have enough patience.

I’ve been learning since I joined AHS last year. Some other company I signed up for does preventive maintenance for the air conditioning and heating. But AHS doesn't. Even though they send me the information on how I can do it myself, I’m gonna mess up somewhere so I’d rather just get the professional do that. So I signed up with the other company to have them do the preventive maintenance and then if I have some problem with the air conditioning then I’d contact AHS.

They had a lot of problems in the beginning with taking out the credit card and the numbers wouldn't go through. Now the service is better than it used to be in terms of speed and accuracy. I recently made a claim over the phone for a kitchen faucet, and the tech from iPlumb that came deserves an absolute pat on the back. I have a very difficult faucet and he did an incredible job of taking it apart and making everything work well. He did much better than I would have expected from anybody. Now it's working great.

I had an issue under my sink and I thought it was my disposal. I called in to American Home Shield to submit the claim and I told the representative what I thought the problem was. It was a Friday when I called in and unfortunately, they weren’t able to send anybody over the weekend so they said Monday. On Sunday, I was contacted by the plumbers, which was nice, and when they came out, they were early. There were two gentlemen and when they went to the sink and looked, the issue wasn’t the disposal. They took all the pipes apart and figured out that it was just a really bad clog. They knew what to do, got it done within half an hour and put everything back together. They were very professional and it was perfect.

But I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 19 years now and my issue with them is that every year, my monthly fee goes up. So does the copay. When we first went with American Home Shield, it was $40 for someone to come to my house. Now, it is $80 and it is around $60 that they take out from my bank account every month. I was talking about this with a co-worker who has left her previous provider and found another one and she is paying a lot less than I am now. There are other options out there. There was even an offer where if you pay for two years, the provider would give her the 3rd year for free.

Still, I like knowing that I have the warranty. I don’t have to sit here, go through the phone book and choose something. I could be picking anybody and I don’t know if they are licensed. I figured American Home Shield does all the legwork and has already weaned out the good and the bad. They take care of all that for me and they are usually good about getting somebody out here.

I was having problems with a well pump so AHS sent a contractor and they did a great job. I filed the claim online on Sunday. By Monday, I had a phone call, and the contractor was there on Wednesday. The contractors were responsive, were professional and were friendly. They were helpful when they came out. The contractor knew right away what the problem was, so did I, though. The retention tank has a baffle in it or a bladder in it that was bad. It was 15 years old. After the repair I got water again.

The warranty takes care of anything that's major that would cost a lot of money to repair. It's also nice to have them come out and replace a faucet or something like that. But you worry about things like furnaces and that sort of thing and the warranty reduces any major out-of-pocket expenses for things like that. I'd recommend American Home Shield. It's a great organization I've had great experience with. I've had it for 18 months now. I had another warranty company that I was completely dissatisfied with. American Home Shield had not been offered in my area until just after that, and so I was pretty happy. I had a friend who's got a second home down in Florida, and she recommended American Home Shield, and the rest is history.

We had a problem with it and the repair was something that needed to be done. We had some stuff in it. American Home Shield sent out Lucas Appliance and their technician was professional and on time. He fixed the refrigerator in 20 minutes. The problem was resolved in less than four hours from the time that I submitted the claim.

My first time using my warranty, and it has been awful and a waste of money. My hot water heater started leaking. Technician was sent out who states it's unrepairable and needs to be replaced. States his company only uses "commercial" products and manufacturers that require an expansion tank. Therefore I need to pay almost $600 to their company (not covered by AHS) for an expansion tank and plumbing modifications to meet manufacturer's warranty requirements. This is not a code requirement in my county, which the tech also stated, it's a manufacturer requirement for their preferred product. They would not do the work unless I agreed to this. I called AHS and asked for someone else as I wanted a like product replacement, a standard 50 gallon water heater, no expansion tank requirement.

They told me they would not pay for another person to come out and my only option is a cashout, where I hire someone myself and pay myself. I requested to know the quote. They called me back with a quote of $373 was their offer to pay for the 50 gallon hot water heater and labor, installation, etc...total. I again requested a replacement of a like product, 50 gallon tank without expansion tank since codes do not require it, and it is not what I currently have, any brand would do. I was denied. 3 phone calls later I am told that other companies (other than the one who came to my home) use AHS as their purchaser/supplier for water heaters and if I wanted to pay a service fee again out of pocket for them to send someone else who uses AHS as their supplier I could pay, but that purchasing would base product purchase off of what's available in my area.

I said, "Okay, let's call purchasing and see what products are available in my area so that we know if it's a product/manufacturer that requires an expansion tank, prior to making that service call so that I know if it's a waste of money." Apparently that's impossible, because the only way purchasing can look that up is if they are ordering at the same time. BS. I have gotten nowhere. They are in violation of contract terms of replacement of a like product. What a pain, but I guess legal is my only other option. I asked to speak to someone higher on 2 of these calls and was told there is no one else to talk to because they are authorization agents. So disappointing.

I have an American Home Shield Warranty and contacted them on February 7, 2019 regarding a broken dryer. I was charged the $75 call fee when the service was requested. A repairman from Suretec Appliance was sent out on February 13, 2019. He said the dryer needed a new heating element and the part would have to be ordered and should take about a week. I tried contacting Suretec on February 15, 2019. No one answered and the recording said the mailbox was full. I contacted American Home Shield, and spent over an hour trying to reach AHS, and explained the situation to the customer service rep. AHS said that they had no information regarding the ordering of a part. I continued trying to contact Suretec several times a day for the next several days and received NO response.

I called AHS back on Monday, February 18 and they supposedly contacted Suretec and the Suretec rep said that the technician had gotten sick last week but she would get with him and get the part ordered. I also asked AHS to have Suretec call me and Suretec never did. On Friday, February 22, I began trying to contact Suretec again to no avail. I then called AHS again and they were also unable to reach Suretec but said they would send them an email. AHS also gave me Suretec's emergency number and no one answered and I could not leave a voicemail.

On Monday, February 25, I began trying to call Suretec again with no answer and no ability to leave a voicemail since the mailbox was full. I once again called AHS and they were unable to reach Suretec. Each time I have contacted AHS I have requested to speak to a manager and I have been put on hold for over an hour with no manager ever coming to the phone. They also charged me three more $75 service fees and I'm still waiting for them to refund those fees. It has been 18 days since I first contacted AHS and my dryer is no closer to being fixed and no one is handling it.

When I first got my warranty back in April of 2018, they were much more responsive but for the last 4 months, you have to wait an hour or more to speak to a customer service rep and they aren't even helpful when you do get to speak to someone. They're simply reading from a script, saying the same thing every time you call, and you cannot get any resolution. This warranty is a waste of money. There is also no way to email AHS and no one handles your complaints.

After having AHS warranty for 7 years my AC broke in my rental property in June of 2018. AHS dispatched a contractor for the repair who first said it needed a computer, this did not fix the problem so the contractor told AHS it was an electrical problem. AHS then sent an electrician who said there is no electrical problem. Then AHS dispatched the AC contractor who initially came out and they said the AC was broke because rats had eaten the duct work (which even a noneducated person for AC repairs understands is BS).

Therefore, AHS made me request a second opinion for which I would be charged if same diagnosis. Then the 2nd AC contractor came out and diagnosed the AC problem was a bad blower. But they ordered the wrong Blower and this added another 3 weeks to the repair. This all took 3 months from June to August without having AC during the summer in Florida before repair was completed. During this time I had to make over 20 calls and spent over 20 hours on the phone with AHS and their contractors and AHS would simply hang up on me on the phone whenever they decided they didn't want to help. AHS will also never call you back if you get disconnected over the phone even if they tell you they will.

So now it's Feb 2019 and my AC broke again. AHS has taken a week to diagnose the problem and of course doesn't call me back or ever provide you with an update. Every time you call AHS you have to hold on the phone for a minimum of an hour to get service and if they hang up on you they never call you back. I will never get another home warranty from AHS. This company has terrible customer service and AHS' only goal is to collect your policy premium and avoid repairs. They say they will fix or replace covered it's in your home and that is a right out lie.

Therefore you should run away from anyone who offers you or Coldwell banker if they try to sell you an AHS home warranty. The service is horrible and they don't try to repair but rather try to avoid repairing any of your problems hoping you give up and go buy another appliance or repair your problem without using their worthless policy. Never ever purchase an AHS home warranty and don't believe the bs they tell you about being rated the best home warranty company because it's all lies just like their service... Don't work with AHS. You've been warned.

My issue with American Home Shield has been resolved since posting the original review. I did indeed receive a follow-up email from their Social Media Outreach team; and the warranty has finally been cancelled, and no further payments were required. I have raised my rating of the company by one star based on the experience I had with the post-rating follow-up, but I will not raise it higher because of the experiences that pushed me to write the initial review.

    Original Review: Feb. 25, 2019

My mother owned a warranty contract with American Home Shield. I only recall her using the warranty once, and it took an inordinate amount of time for the issue to be resolved (she lived in a small area with very few contracted service providers, so the wait for an appointment took forever). When she passed, I wanted to get a few issues fixed in the house and so contacted customer service to try to file a few claims. When I learned that I would have to pay a service fee for each item I wanted to have checked out (prior to any appointments even being set), and because I would have to maintain the warranty during the time it would take to arrange the service calls (extra tricky since I live out of state), I asked to cancel the warranty. At that point I asked to cancel the warranty, but was told I could not since I didn't own the contract (never mind that I am the Administratrix of my mother's estate).

At the point, I deleted my personal bank information. Since then, I began receiving near daily calls from AHS. I informed first one, and then another customer service rep that my mother was deceased. The first said he would mark the account for me. The second transferred me to customer service; after a brief hold, I was at the recorded main menu. I hung up because I could not take telling yet another person on the same call that the reason the account is not paid is that my mother has died, but I have not been permitted to terminate the warranty. After that call, I blocked the number. Now I'm receiving emails to the effect that AHS is "attempting to collect on a debt." As if it's not bad enough that I've lost my mother, I now have this company refusing to allow me to cancel her warranty and harassing me for payment on a product I don't want. I've had it with this company.

Update 04/19/2019: I wrote a review here on AHS about 6 weeks ago, you should be able to see it. It seemed to have been resolved. This weekend, I received a letter in the mail that they are canceling my contract. I have been a customer for 11 years.

This is what you get if you dare to file a complaint with them. DO NOT use this company. They have no loyalty and their customer service is atrocious. There was no explanation why they are cancelling my contract, but it's very obvious why. They cannot take responsibility for poor service and contractors and instead, cancel contracts on loyal customers if you dare make a complaint. That is how they handle issues! Their lack of integrity is astounding. I sent out an email to everyone I have recommended them to, and also to a couple of realtor friends who I used to highly recommend AHS to. Thankfully a realtor replied to all and recommended another home warranty company who he has had fantastic experiences with (Blue Ribbon). Buyer beware!

Approximately 18 months ago, I'd had a terrible interaction with Appliance Doctors. That time, he actually screamed at me (on speakerphone, my kids heard also so I had others to back me up), dropping ** bombs and telling me "we don't repair refrigerators in the ** garage when it's 14 ** degrees out!" I'm sorry, but that is between you and AHS, and you should have clarified that with them before you showed up at my house, diagnosed the problem, told me the part was ordered... and then just completely dropped the issue, never called me back to let me know, or updated me.

I had to track Appliance Doctors down and that is when he screamed at me and let me know he wasn't coming back. I filed a complaint with AHS, and they sent someone else out who not only fixed the issue, but also informed me that Appliance Doctors had completely misdiagnosed the issue and what he was going to do to "fix" the issue would not have fixed it anyways!

Fast forward to about a year later. I have two more issues, this time with my indoor ice maker and my washing machine. Appliance Doctors is again dispatched, I had somehow forgotten the name of the company who I had had the terrible experience with. This time, he diagnoses the problem and tells me he is coming back when the parts are in.

Two weeks later, I call THEM back because they are terrible about communication. They threaten me and tell me "if we can't come today, in two hours, we can't come until next week (in other words ~" rearrange your plans even though we are giving you zero notice, or you will have to wait"). So I rearrange my plans. He comes over, and because I was had plans, I was in my room getting ready to leave, so I didn't watch him. He is also very creepy (confirmed by my tenant, below, and I could not be in the same room with him). He was in and out in 10 minutes which I thought was strange, considering he repaired two appliances.

Over the next 24 hours it was clear that NOTHING had been repaired. My washing machine was not working at all, and there was no ice in my ice maker. I called AHS up and raised a ruckus. They tried to charge me to send someone else out! I escalated and demanded I needed a second opinion. Finally they sent out VP Appliances (who is wonderful, highly recommended). He determined that NOTHING...absolutely NOTHING had been repaired.

I took pics of the ice maker and it was completely clear it was an old, crud covered ice maker. It was obvious it was absolutely not newly replaced. He laughed when I told him it had just been replaced. He explained that what Appliance Doctors claimed they did with the washing machine would have required about an hour's worth of work ~ including draining water from the washing machine, disassembling it, etc. Likely parts would have been left behind that I would have been required to dispose of (this is normal standard procedure from other repairs I have had done). That is not including replacing the ice maker, which was maybe another 20 minutes. Appliance Doctors had been in and out in 10 minutes.

I called AHS and complained. I told the entire story and that the tech completely fabricated the work and charged them for it! And that it was ridiculous that they are even using them after my experience the previous year with Parker dropping ** bombs and literally screaming at me on the phone. THEN a few months ago, my tenant had a dishwasher issue. I was not involved and had no idea that Appliance Doctor was dispatched. I trusted that AHS was professional enough to not be using this psychotic tech and company any longer. I was wrong. Appliance Doctor, after dragging out the repair for more than 6 WEEKS finally said that my tenants dishwasher needed to be replaced, because it wasn't draining properly. Several weeks more goes by and dishwasher is replaced.

Guess what happens? The new dishwasher STILL does not drain. Why? Because Appliance Doctors is a complete scam of a company and the old dishwasher never needed to be replaced! There was a simple clogged drain that needed to be drained. AHS refused to admit that they are hiring a fraudulent company ~ Appliance Doctors who is purposely misdiagnosing issues/faking repairs for which customers are paying for and then customers ALSO have to pay for a second company to come out and fix what Appliance Doctors is faking/misdiagnosing! One mistake I can see ~ not EVERY single time they come out. My tenant never had an appliance issue. It was a PLUMBING issue, but I was charged to both change out the dishwasher (That was perfectly fine. We never needed a new dishwasher. Appliance Doctors fraudulently charged AHS...and thus, me for one), and then a plumber, to fix the *actual* issue.

One of the control boards on my gas heat pump had gone out. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield but for so many years, I've called directly to a repair company and have them come out to do the repairs. But this particular incident went very well. It's a great company and everything from AHS did exactly what they should've done. The contractors were fabulous and they were better than the company that I used to use. Also, in this particular case, AHS used a quality contractor for this quality work. But that is not the case with some of the contractors they use.

We had some plumbing issues before. The plumber literally came to the house, sat in his car at the end of my driveway with my wife sweeping the driveway right behind the car and he had the nerve to turn around and say, "Customer not home. Billed them the $75." When we tried to go back to AHS to get the contractor back out, they told us it was gonna be another $75 because we weren't home the first time. He came three times to the house, tried to bill me twice for not being there even though I was and then finally came the third time. It was a bad experience. I almost canceled because every time I put in a service call, I got the same plumbing company. I thought it was worthless.

I wish there was a way that consumers can blackball to get some of the contractors off AHS' list and let us contract with some other people that are more dependable. It reflects on the warranty when they've got a shoddy service provider. They have some businesses on there that are ripping people off, particularly now that we have to pay the $75 upfront to get them to come out. The first time I submitted a claim a couple of years ago, I didn't pay until after they came out. There was a little bit of pressure for the contractor to actually show up. Now, they don't even have to get out of the car. All they have to do is drive up and say the customer is not there, collect their $75, and go to AHS and tell them to reschedule. Then, they'll come back out and collect another $75. Nevertheless, I had great service with the heating and air guy. He came back to do the hot water as well. As long as I get to tell AHS which company not to use, it's a good service.

We had an electrical problem and the power, lights and circuits were going out in the house. My wife submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. A lot of times, we called them and talked to them but we had to do it on the computer because the phone calls weren't going too well. The reps weren't picking up or it would roll into voicemail and we had to leave a message. That's horrible because we had to get back with them instead of them getting back with us. They need to do a little bit better at communicating.

The electrician came out about five times to get the issue solved but it never got solved. We couldn't use the dryer and the microwave. The heating mechanism needed to run the dryer is what made it short out on the outside of the house. It was at least a week that that happened. The only way that it got solved is the guy that checked our dryer realized that it was something on the outside of the house and it had to do with electricity. The issue was a change of circuit which the electrician should have found. We had to set up appointments for an electrician to come out again and it was a different electrical company that came out. They fixed the problem and it hasn’t been an issue since then. But I wasn't satisfied with the situation that I had gone through the last three months.

Our heating and cooling unit was not working properly. I noticed that the controller in the living room kept blinking out and it would be 100 degrees in the house. I called American Home Shield for help and got a very helpful rep. Within the same day, a young man from Todd's Residential Heating & Cooling came out. He was exceedingly professional, courteous and attentive. He listened to me and he checked everything out before he made any pronouncements or decisions. He wasn't just talking off the top of his head.

He had to replace our unit and he also found one or two panels inside the unit outside that were not functional. It had been running on heat tapes for probably a year and costing me a fortune in electricity. He replaced those too. Ever since he did that, the house has been much more comfortable. The temperature has been consistent. Now, it says 65. The repair had some effect on my latest bill too because I think it was about half a month and it was less than I anticipated for the same year.

American Home Shield sounded like a better deal after we read some reviews. So far we've filed two claims with them and they've been good. We were pleased and we certainly got our money's worth. The most recent of the two was for our microwave that stopped working. My wife went online and put in a claim. The contractor then came and diagnosed the problem. It took a week and a half to get the part and then the contractor came back and fixed the unit.

We had an AC issue wherein the exterior part of the unit was not functioning correctly. The fan motor itself stopped and a large amount of heat was pouring out from the top of the exterior handler. I was worried about it catching fire because the fan was not cooling down the system and there was blowing up of hot air up at the vent which causes to shut down the unit. My wife quickly looked up our policy and made sure if it would cover the AC. She went online and got a hold of American Home Shield. She researched and made sure that we took the proper steps of putting in the claim, that it was reviewed and had them properly contact the right people. We also asked a couple of questions to see what out of pocket cost would it incur. We filed the claim in the evening and we got a confirmation that evening as well. Then, within a 24-hour period, they were able to get a service to come out and take a look at it.

The contractor confirmed the issues with the unit and he was done in an hour and a half. Also, it was amazing because he had the motor and everything on hand, which was hard for me to come across on because I've had a place before where my unit messed up that I had to wait like 48 to 72 hours to get the parts and it took them several trips to get the unit fixed. So far, the AC is blowing amazingly and it's cooling down perfectly since the repair. There are no hesitations in the fan and no loud noises. It's just running like it was almost brand new. Given my experience, American Home Shield was very quick and very professional of what they did. They were also very resourceful on who they chose to come out and repair the unit. They just didn't choose some company that kinda beats around the bush. They got somebody that was very professional and knew exactly what needed to be done. I thank American Home Shield so much for this.

I did a claim online with American Home Shield as my washing machine went out. But something happened and I had to go back in and do the claim over the phone. There was a very long hold time. The first contractor that came out didn't do a thorough job. He changed out some things but he didn't put some kind of rubber band or metal piece back on. He also tracked my house up with all kinds of mud and dirt.

Somebody else was sent out and he ordered parts. Two guys then came in to fix the washing machine afterward. I have a concrete yard and they tracked all kinds of mud and dirt in my house. I was very angry about that. They left parts all over the place and they didn't put all the pieces in. The other technician came out to repair the dryer. He went back in and he tried to fix the piece on the washing machine that they left off. But he had to order another piece for it. But then the guy who was fixing the dryer wound up having some health issues and he never came back. The washing machine wound up breaking again.

I could never get that technician to come back. I kept calling and calling. The holidays went by and nobody called. I had to call AHS back and request for somebody else to come back out. It was very frustrating because the washing machine stopped completely. I wound up going to the laundromat to wash clothes. I was to the point that I told the lady at AHS that I might just need to find another home warranty. She said they were gonna get the problem taken care of.

I happened to see a guy in the area and asked him if he took American Home Shield. He did and I explained to him what my problem was. He told me to give AHS a call and tell them his business name. He would then come by and check my stuff out, which he did. He repaired my washing machine. Now, my washing machine is working fine. I told the guy that I was gonna make sure that if anything else were to happen, I'd request for him. The whole ordeal ran through the beginning of December up to the end of January before everything was technically fixed. Overall, I would still recommend American Home Shield because the issues were resolved.

When I called in my claim for the refrigerator, the claims rep told me that the contractor would call me. I got emails stating that N & K would reach out to me, which they did in about a day or two. They came in with the first part for the icemaker. The repairman had to order another part because he came at the end of the day. I had to ask the repairman if he could come in earlier because I always ended up with him coming towards the end of the day, like 6 or 7 at night. So, he ended up coming in replacing one part. Then I called him back but I didn't get him right away. It took about three or four days before I could reach him. He finally emailed me back and said he was out somewhere.

On the second day after I didn't hear from the repairman, I called American Home Shield back because what he repaired was not working. So, they told me that they were gonna try to contact the repairman. I got a call from the repairman who said that the part was in and he was coming to replace it. We have been experiencing a sewage leakage out of a pipe on the side of our property. But it wasn’t actually supposed to be leaking sewage. It was an over drain pipe so we assumed there was some kind of blockage somewhere along the line. I was hoping that American Home Shield's contractor would be able to figure out what was wrong with it and I filed a claim online. That process was straightforward and Hodges got here pretty quickly. It was within the week of the claim. The guy was straightforward too. He came in and did his work. He also talked with my husband about what he was doing, why he was doing it and some reasons why he thought we might have been experiencing our plumbing issue. He was a nice guy.

But in addition to the leak, we were also experiencing slow draining pretty consistently throughout the house. While the technician was here, he ended up running a snake through the house and that fixed most of the issues we were having. But we still have one slow drain so we had issues like refiling for the same claim to see if he would come back out. We did file it and I guess American Home Shield contacted Hodges about it but Hodges said that a collapsed pipe was the reason why we were having a slow drain. But I don’t recall that being mentioned at all whenever they were actually here. So right now, we’re looking into getting a sewage inspection to get another opinion on that.

Once, the fans that are in the crawl space froze up and they sent Fayette Electric out. Then, when we were doing work under the house, we found a third fan that was located between the old house and the addition that no one saw when Fayette was here the first time. While I was down there, we went and poked around. It was seized up. I had Fayette come out again and replace that as well.

Fayette has already come out, measured and verified that the fan is the same kind of fan and now they have to order it. They've been very responsive about getting back in a timely manner when they spoke with me. They've also been really responsive when sometimes I buck the norm and I tell them to call my mom since I'm not at home. My mom has had nothing but happy reviews on most contractors that AHS has sent out, especially with Fayette. My dad has wonderful things to say about them as well.

I agreed but when American Home Shield called, they asked me if I would pay the difference for the extra things I wanted to add to the heater. I told them that it was fine. I then got a letter saying that my claim was completely denied.

I'm getting frustrated because they just keep denying everything. They denied putting a handle on my stove. They said the part was missing when in fact, the part was inside the door. Nobody even looked for the part. I had to call up a second time and have somebody come out. I pay $100 a month for my service, and I had to pay $75 twice to have somebody screw the handle on the door of my oven because the first technician’s invoice was denied. I’m getting tired of playing games. I don’t see what the purpose of a home insurance policy is if the real purpose is to deny all the claims.

I’m a real estate agent. I’ve recommended American Home Shield to people over the past 15 years. They canceled my policy a year and a half ago, then they called and reinstated it, but told me I needed to pay more money. That was fine with me, but now, they’re denying any claims that go through. So something's wrong and the policy isn't working. Although the people that you call on the phone are very polite and they're doing their job right, it’s something in the corporate that is determined to make money at the cost of displeasing their clientele.

We had no hot water on Sunday morning. Initial call to AHS resulted in learning their computers were down, but they made note of issue. I called back 15 minutes later, there was no record of my call, so I submitted an expedited request for plumber. Three hours later, after leaving service provider 3 messages with no response, I called AHS again and was told there was no record for expedited service and there is no plumber in their network that works on a Sunday. This is Los Angeles, I can easily find 30 plumbers who work on Sunday. AHS refused to go out of their network and consistently told me "guidelines allow them 24 hours." I do not recommend a company that puts children and elderly at risk when there are plenty of providers who will reply on Sunday for emergencies.

This warranty is horrible, worst money ever spent. Waited 3 1/2 weeks for an electrical repair that their contracted workers left in worse shape when they began the repair on property before 1/25 finally got serviced again on 2/22. During this service they had to cut a 6 inch tall 1 ft wide section of sheetrock out (which they didn't repair because it's not covered in the warranty). Refrigerator died 2/16 & first service availability was 2/25. Cannot believe they would accept service of a Refrigerator 10 days out from report of incident, all contents of appliance are ruined of course. Couldn't imagine if it was the HVAC in the middle of the summer or dead of winter. The customer service has been horrible, warranty work is sub par. I am a realtor & cannot believe they think this type of warranty & customer service is acceptable. I could NEVER in good faith allow one of my clients to spend money on this warranty. Pitiful all the way around.

The interaction with Total Air Care, the company AHS sent, was great. The AC wasn't working. It was hot and uncomfortable. The technician went beyond everything to find out what the problem was. He stayed for about 30 minutes. Now that the AC is up and running, everything is back to normal. I'm glad we got AHS. We've been using them for about five years and have never had a problem with them. We usually phone claims in and normally they get someone out right away.

One of the plugs in our second bedroom broke inside and caused the whole back of our house not to have power. My wife told American Home Shield what the problem was and within a couple of days, their contractor was here. The tech who arrived was very polite and professional. He explained the situation and told me what he was gonna do. He went through every circuit in the house and checked every one of them. He then checked the fuse box at the back and he found out we had power there. Afterwards, he replaced the circuit breaker in our bathroom but then there was still no power in the other rooms.

So, he started going with his tester, plugging it in and going through certain areas to find out what wasn't working properly. When he found what was wrong, he took it apart and replaced it. I gave him the right color of replacement which I had in the garage because what he had was a different color than the ones I already had on my wall. Still, he plugged it in and everything worked. He checked the rest of the house again and everything was fine.

My AC unit went out and when I called it in, the reps were nice but it took a few different techs to come out to tell me what the initial problem with the unit was. The first one told me that it was the batteries in the thermostat and to me, he didn’t have time. I told him that I didn’t pay $75 for him to tell me about a $6 battery. The second one came at midnight and he didn’t leave until after 2 o’clock in the morning. He said it was sparking fire. He showed me where it was being sparked off and he changed that piece, but not even the next afternoon, it was still doing the same thing, so I called and AHS sent out somebody else who said the furnace has gone out.

It took that many people for them to tell me it was the furnace. That’s ridiculous. The tech told me the furnace needs to be out and what our out-of-pocket expense will be versus what they were gonna do. It took them several days or so to come out to fix it and I keep children. It went from cold to hot in here. Also, when they were taking the furnace out, they scratched my floor and damaged it a bit. I let them know that and I still haven’t heard anything from that. Other than that, the whole furnace was replaced. American Home Shield is a really good company and they try to send the best out to you. In fact, I have been recommending them.

I just bought the house and wanted to get the house rekeyed because I wanted to make sure that we’re the only ones that had keys to the house. I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the interactions I had with their rep was awesome. They called me and told me the contractor would be out, and then they told me that he was on the way. I was very up-to-date on when the contractor would be here and was informed 100% of the way. The guy that showed up helped me out a lot and he was very knowledgeable about his part of the trade. He was very trustworthy and everything that he did was great.

I wanted all the keys on one key, so I didn’t have to juggle through two keys for one door. Apparently, there’s something called the SmartKey that I didn’t even know is available. The contractor was able to do that for me, and that was of no cost to me. It was awesome. It was a great experience with AHS and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I only have AHS for another three months. But I’m definitely using them to my full advantage right now. I used the rekey and the plumber already, and everything I can with AHS. I loved everything.

I submitted two claims to American Home Shield online and I wish that there was a way I could put more information. When the contractors texted me, I felt that I wanted the ability to tell the technician about what area of the problem was so that they would make sure to have the right part. And I don’t even know if contacting them, if I provided that information, would get to the contractor. So I’m a little hesitant.

The microwave was not heating, and the oven area was having difficulty lighting the electric ignition. The gentleman was very prompt, contacted me several times to say he was gonna be early and asked if that was convenient. He called me before he arrived, came in, and completely unassembled my microwave. It’s a wall unit. He did diagnostics, replaced the part, put it back in, confirmed that it was working properly, and then, left the replaced part with me, and then took a look at my ignition. It was interesting because it worked right away and he couldn’t see any issues with it. He took a look at some other parts, and then, reminded me of the proper way of cleaning it. He felt that potentially, some chemicals were getting on the part of the ignition. I have had no problems with either. It was great and I'm completely satisfied.

However, I also had a plumber come out and at this point I’m not thrilled. I had reported a plumbing leak from my second story bathroom. There was water coming down through the light fixture of the formal dining room and it got flooded. I went through AHS online and it was on a Friday and I had no way of getting a hold of anybody for the technician to try to come out sooner, so we shut down that bathroom. When the plumber showed up, there was no leak going on. Everything was dried up. My acoustic ceiling is stained and he said there’s still a leak there but since he can’t visually see it coming through our light, there’s nothing he can do. So I still have a leak, and I’m not responsible for trying to make it a visual water leak, even though we know what happened.

They told me I had up to two months to try to make the leak happen, and then, the guy could come back out. So now, I’m looking at having to tear down my ceiling and my drywall just to be able to prove it. I’m really concerned about molds. The plumber wasn’t thrilled about the fact that it’s a second story bathroom, and leaking down to the first. American Home Shield contacted me because I also had made a claim for a stoppage. But I didn’t really know that the contract for the stoppage is only included within the foundation of my property, that it didn’t include the outside. But they called and were prompt about it. They showed me where in the contract it was not covered, so I was pleased with that.

I'm surprisingly happy with the service that I've gotten with American Home Shield. I recently made a claim to them when water from the bathtub on the second floor started pouring in all of a sudden and water came through the first-floor ceiling. I filed the claim online and it was easy. But I prefer to talk to a person and the way they handled the situation had been really good. Everyone was professional, accommodating and explained what was covered and what wasn’t. It was straightforward. We got contractors who did a good job and for the most part, they were excellent.

I had one contractor who was there to fix a washing machine and he told me it was a stacked washer dryer and that the problem was with the washing machine. He said I was gonna have to hire another contractor myself to take the dryer off because it wasn’t covered. I am generally fine with whatever is being covered and there is a very specific list of what's covered or not and what's their responsibility. The contractor said it would take two people to remove the dryer, and he is a one-man band. But I always want one contractor to do the job for me from start to finish and I don’t want people pointing their fingers at each other.

So, I called AHS and I told them that I need a contractor who could do the whole job even if I have to pay for the dryer to be removed. I can't have two separate contractors doing the job. AHS called the contractor who said that he could do it without removing the dryer. Then, he came and did it though it was a bit of a harder way for him to do it. He fixed it fine and it was finished in 45 minutes once he got the part. I don’t know what would have happened if he said he couldn’t do it that way and I would have been really upset with him. If there's ever a situation like that, I would like AHS to be flexible in that case because I don’t have an issue with paying for what's not covered. They would have let me switch contractors at that point if he couldn’t handle the contractor was able to handle it without the more expensive route.

Furthermore, I always have a problem with waste and I don’t want an appliance to be replaced just because one part is broken. And when you don’t have insurance, you call a plumber or whatever kind of contractor and they all say that it can’t be fixed. When we had a faucet crack in the kitchen backhouse, a contractor came as I also have coverage under my policy. It was annoying that they couldn’t just give me a new faucet, but they got the manufacturer to send the replacement part. That was the way it should be done anyway and it shouldn’t always have to be replaced because there was a minor problem. I like the way the policy works where the contractor is supposed to fix the problem and not replace it unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm all for that. Overall, I like American Home Shield so much. I've even mentioned it to people that they should get it.

I'm very good-hearted person so I told them my husband, who just passed away, got a lot of tools because he was a handyman and they were welcome to use my husband’s tools. Then, they said that they needed parts and because they didn't have a vehicle, I needed to give them a ride to Lowe's. So I took them to Lowe's and they got the parts.

When we came back, they opened my ceiling and they messed it up. My husband got an exhaust fan up there right behind the water pipe. They ripped them up and they didn't put them up. They also didn't cover the hole so now, there is still a hole in my ceiling. I have their phone number. I called them but I never heard from them again. Then the pipe broke again. It burst all over my basement and everything in there got wet. I called American Home Shield again and they sent another company, MMG. This time, the people who came were very good. When they came to my house they saw the water and all the buckets of water still in my bathroom, sunroom and basement. They fixed it. I also told them what the first company did to me.

My six children are all on an American Home Shield warranty. I make automatic payments with a check from my checking account every month and I've never missed a payment. I was very disappointed with the company that they sent me. I told them to never send me those people again. Also, American Home Shield has never given me a discount. I am 72 years old and I live on a fixed income. My husband was a retired military man and I have his ID. I have a lot of older friends and they told me that other companies give a discount for military and old people. Since they don't give a discount and they don't do anything for me, I'm thinking of cancelling my contract by the end of next month.

American Home Shield's website was user-friendly and easy to navigate through. I submitted a claim for a water leak and they gave me a two-day timeframe for the contractor to come out. The contractor was professional and met expectations. He had to put in a new piece of pipe and he had the parts he needed. I had no water in the whole house for three days before the repair happened. But everything is performing well so far. Having AHS is very valuable. If I had to call in technicians every single moment, I would have paid a lot more than a $75 service fee.

The pan under the AC was filling up and it was overflowing into the ceiling. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and navigating through their website was very easy. It took a while to get a contractor dispatched out, which was about three weeks because they were very busy. But when the contractor arrived, they were very nice and professional. They came out at three different times over the course of four months to figure out what the problem was. And they came out for free the next two times. The performance of the AC has not been 100% perfect though. They had to put in four new parts and AHS covered that. And now, it’s working perfectly fine. Having a warranty for my property is very valuable since things are covered. So, when something breaks, we can put in a request and have it fixed through them.

It's been an outstanding experience with American Home Shield every time. When we had a squealing exhaust motor on our furnace, I submitted a claim online and it was easy navigating their website. The tech from Johnson Heating & Cooling came and inspected it. He determined that it was still functional and a replacement was not needed at that time. He did an excellent job of explaining the warranty process, and also what the issues were and what to look for. I was satisfied with the outstanding job he did. He was very straightforward and made everything very easy. From the people we've had in and out of our house in the past year, Johnson Heating & Cooling's techs were definitely the best.

I wasn’t getting any heat so I made my claim to American Home Shield online. This was easier than trying to call them. When I call, it takes a while to get through. You need a lot of steps to go through to get to talk to somebody. AHS contracted World Class ACa and until the techs showed up, I had to get the electric blanket out. The guys who came were great.

But the whole new guys that I had out the other day is a totally different story. They were a couple of hours late and the lady on the phone was very rude. A guy took the shower and sink apart and said he would come back the next day because he was gonna go get the valves needed to stop the leaks. But he texted me the next day saying they didn't have the valves. The office would have to order parts.

My shower and my sink are both torn apart right now as that was how the guy left them. I was told the parts should be in on the 28th. But the tech guys should have put my shower and sink back together. When I called yesterday, after the rep left me on hold forever again, she said that the tech told her it had to stay apart which was BS. Other than that, American Home Shield has been great and it's pretty valuable having it.

He gave us little tips on certain things to do.

The dryer started to take longer runs and take an extremely long time. It would take all day and it wouldn't dry. It was also making a loud racket. When I called American Home Shield to file the claim, the rep was good and took down the information. AHS sent somebody over who said it was my fault and I wasn't caring for it properly. This was the first time that somebody came over and tried to point a finger at me, which was very unusual. This guy came late and was very unprofessional. When he talked to me, he didn't give me any indication. He thought that the reason it wasn't working was something that I did, except it was wear and tear. It turned out that American Home Shield didn't want to pay for it because they thought it was poor care on my part, which was not true.

I called up American Home Shield and they sent a guy for a second opinion. He was from Barfield's, who right away said that he knew what the problem was and that he knew what it was gonna take to fix it. He came back with the parts and did whatever he needed to do, and it works great. He was out to my house before and was here for my dishwasher some years ago.

I’ve been with AHS since I moved here, which will be 12 years in June. This was the one my sister told me she was using in Miami and had for years and had good experiences. However, different people seem to have different cost involved depending on when they started working with them. My sister was with them so much longer in the past. Her cost for a home visit was $65 and mine's 100. Nevertheless, AHS is excellent. I've had people come in for other reasons in the building trade and some of them make disparaging remarks about American Home Shield, but my experience has only been positive. I've had a very good experience over all the years I've had it and it has more than paid for itself with all the different things that I've had them come out and do.

Within a couple of hours, the contractor came out and he was very professional and the service that he provided was really good. He spent time explaining what needed to happen and fixed the problem. He also identified a few other things down the road that could’ve been improved. I’ve had American Home Shield since 2015. There was a time when had a problem with my water heater and the icemaker on my refrigerator. Whenever I call them, they make an appointment right away with whatever company they are contracted with that addresses the issue. Usually, someone comes within 48 hours, sometimes sooner, but no later than that. When I submit a claim through the phone, I don’t ever seem to get the feeling that I am an inconvenience whenever I've spoken with the reps. They are always very upbeat and wanting to resolve whatever my issue is.

The contractors that AHS sends are very good because they are usually educational. They explain what they are doing and what I can do to prevent future problems. It was very helpful in my water heater because I had never been told what I could do to make sure I didn’t have any problems. I also had them come out one time for my forced air heating and they took care of that, too. Also, recently, the door of my microwave would not stay closed and I had had that problem before. Another company had come out two months prior and fixed it, but it broke again. The representative from Jones Family Appliance Repair explained to me why it happened to break again. He fixed it and he told me it would not ever break again. It was the way the other company had repaired it.

AHS has been on point with me and I would tell others if they felt they could use an insurance program like that, then they should. It takes a lot of stress out of my life when I have an appliance issue. I don’t have to call around and get prices and do reviews on Facebook or Yelp or any place to check other people’s experiences. I don’t have to do any of that legwork. I just call American Home Shield and they take care of it, so for me, having the warranty is very much worth it.

It was leaking water from the pressure valve. I submitted the claim online and it was very convenient. The technician came two times to try to fix the issue but the valve was overheating. We couldn’t even touch it. A good amount of water was also coming out of the pipe. It was really a problem but Diamond Plumbing was good and the technician was great. He came whenever I requested and he came three times. The third time was the day he replaced it and it was a great experience from the get-go.

I am extremely upset and disappointed by the level of service provided and lack of responsibility American Home Shield has taken. Here is my story: On Feb 8th, I called in a request to fix a small leak in our clothes washer. Feb 12th, Dan Gleason Appliance repair in AZ came to my home to inspect. Said "easy fix" and ordered a part. Feb 20th, came back to my home to install. Feb 22nd - came home from work to a FLOOD in my house coming from the washer! Damage done: There is water in the laundry room, linen closet, under the stairwell, in the garage, and in the half bath, which mean the water went through the walls and into the other rooms.

Feb 22nd - I called into customer service to inform of the damage and the issue. They said they will send the same guy back out to fix the washer. I refused, why would I let someone back into my house who caused thousands of dollars in damage. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was condescendingly told "Oh that's how it is, you can hold". Then the manager states he sent an email to contractor relations. I asked "What should I do about the ACTIVE leak in my home right now? How do I fix this, can you send someone out in an emergency to help?" "NO. We have to wait for an email back from contractor relations." It was Friday evening, it's now Saturday morning and the damage continues.

I sent a message to their Facebook profile. The person who handles it replied by saying "We don't cover any secondary damage". Excuse me? YOUR chosen contractor caused this damage, yet you won't take responsibility? I expect a full refund of my full premium. The ENTIRE extent of the damage to be remedied. And my washer to be repaired correctly. If these things are not done, legal action will be taken. Waiting on their reply, will update once received... Sincerely, Incompetence Victim.

The tech was fine when he arrived and the garbage disposal unit has been working fine since the repair. But when I had an issue with the dishwasher, AHS did nothing. They claimed that the reason my dishwasher wasn’t working was that it had gotten infested with insects and insect infestation was not covered by the warranty. They said that there was a dead roach in the electronics of the dishwasher. But we don’t know whether that happened before or after the dishwasher stopped working. I needed to buy a new dishwasher instead. But other than that, I’ve used other home warranty companies and AHS is a bit better than some of them.

Electrician arrived and explained to my girlfriend that our washer and dryer were wired in the same circuit as my living room and kitchen. Electrician proceeded to disconnect our washer and dryer from that circuit, told us he would contact us and provide our next steps.

2 weeks passed, I contacted AHS by phone and they proceeded to explain that the repairs to split the circuit and replace the main circuit would not be covered due to a circuit overload. I then explained to the representative that the electrician has already fixed the circuit overload issue by disconnecting the washer and dryer. Representative then placed me on hold for several minutes and explained that the labor for the electrician for future repairs would be covered, I would be responsible for the physical costs.

I didn't hear from AHS or AJ Moore Electric. Contacted AHS after another 2 weeks and representative explained only the past labor was covered and no future repairs would be covered and just apologized about the conflicting information that was provided 2 weeks prior. AHS has now left me without a washer and dryer with a 7 person household and only provided half their service.

Our furnace was making a loud noise and my daughter said that it sounded like a helicopter. I called American Home Shield late on a Friday and the contractor contacted me by Saturday morning. Unfortunately, at that time, I didn’t have someone to be at the house so we waited a couple of days. The gal who was answering the phone calls and returning messages was excellent. She kept me updated and she knows exactly how the program worked and what I could expect.

The chosen contractor was excellent. Once they got out to our house, they called to inform me that there was a large crack in the furnace so it was unsafe. We already had two days of 30 below 0 in the entire Chicago area, but they kept me apprised and American Home Shield did too. When everything was approved, they were able to replace it within two days. So, they got what they promised and everything they needed ‘cause it’s an old home. Once they got there the second day, they had the furnace replaced within an hour and a half. That was very quick and they also made sure everything was fitted in properly. The furnace is now up and running.

I’ve had American Home Shield since I bought my home and it has been 12 years now. I was a little scared because it's an older home and what could happen. Each time I needed service, they have been prompt and I have not had a problem. I also don’t have to go to the house since every contractor has been excellent the few times they were there. I always recommend people to get American Home Shield. Some people think, “Why don’t you just put in a savings account?” But one doesn’t know how much they’re gonna need. That’s why we’re paying the premium because we don’t know exactly what might happen.
