I usually filed my claims with AHS online and that was very easy. The contractors were good and wasted no time. They called me and came immediately, and they were able to complete the repair on the same day. Recently, the refrigerator was making a loud, weird noise and I submitted a claim. The tech was on time and did a good job. He replaced the part that was making a noise. The performance of the refrigerator has been good and there has been no noise since the repair. But I had problem before with the reps because of the water heater for the other house that we have. There was a little bit of chaos with that one, but we sorted it out. This time, though, it was very good dealing with the reps.

A pipe from the kitchen to the sewer was full of grease, but not totally clogged. It got gunk in it, but water could still go through it. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and they sent Ally Plumbing out. When the plumber came to my house, he said that it wasn’t covered since it wasn’t completely clogged up. He also said that they could fix it for me, so I told him to go ahead. I had to pay the plumber the full price plus the $75 that American Home Shield charged to my credit card just to register a claim. My gripe was with paying the $75 because AHS did not cover the problem. And I didn’t understand that I could call them to see if the problem I was having was covered because I got a printout of the contract, but it wasn’t very clear.

On the same week as the plumbing claim, there was also the garage door. On the printed contract, it said that the spring of garage doors was covered but when the guy sent by American Home Shield got here, he said that the springs aren’t broken. So I found out that only if the springs were broken would AHS cover it, but they were just old and tired and they weren’t strong enough to lift the door. I really didn’t know what the problem was until I had a repairman come. All I knew was the garage door only went up three feet and then it wouldn’t go any further.

I also had three other AHS-repaired issues and they were covered. But now I’ve learned that if I have another problem, I have to call the American Home Shield number and explain the problem as far as I understand it and find out if I should pursue with them or just call somebody on my own. Also, the people I talked with over at AHS have a foreign accent and they sometimes talk fast, so I have to tell them to say it again slowly. It would be nice if they do have English as the second language speakers, if they just talk more slowly and enunciate. Overall, when something’s covered, American Home Shield is great. But finding out if something is covered or not is confusing.

We had a clogged toilet and it took four visits for the contractor to finally fix that. Something was stuck in the P trap and they got it unstuck once but there had been a toy or something in there because it kept clogging back up. But the contractor was fine. My experience with him was easy and simple, efficient and fast. I also did a claim for my washing machine which wouldn't drain. The contractor came and fixed it one shot. It's all good now but it wasn't covered. On the other hand, submitting claims with American Home Shield online is very easy.

The heater's capacitor was old and it went bad. I called American Home Shield to file a claim. But there was a little hiccup at first. The person that I talked to didn't have English as his first language so I couldn't understand him. It was hard but it worked out. AHS got me a contractor, ATR Heating & Cooling, the very next day. A guy from ATR came and he was really nice and professional. He took his time to tell me exactly what was wrong with the unit and he showed me what the capacitor looked like and what it should look like. He was able to diagnose the problem and explain it too so that way I would understand. He replaced the part that went bad and got the unit working again. It was pretty cold that week so that was nice. He did a good job and the heater works great now. AHS' service went well. I would recommend them to other people and I have actually done that.

When our water heater had stopped working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone wherein the process was not difficult to get started, considering that we discovered the problem Sunday morning. A plumber was sent out and he came on Monday. He determined that the issue was not within the plumbing structure, but it was actually the power cord from the water heater. The heater used a three-pronged plug to plug into the wall, and the problem was where the socket and the plug came together. So, he said he couldn't fix it. He reported back to AHS and they sent out the electrician, who came on Tuesday and fixed the water heater.

AHS was prompt in getting out the first contractor, who turned out to be not the right one through nobody's fault. The obvious first choice for a water heater problem was a plumber, and then the electrician was lined up. The interaction with the electrician were all very positive. He said that he was surprised to see that the electrical connection that was used was a plug, instead of a hard-wired appliance. He wasn't sure he had exactly what he needed to fix it, but he was able to fabricate something. He had the right cord and he changed it into a hard-wired solution rather than a three-pronged plug. I was very happy about that, and since the repair, the water heater has been working fine.

Our recent experience with American Home Shield was very good. My water heater went out and was leaking water. The man from White Mountain Heating and Cooling was very cooperative. He knew what he was doing, and he did a fantastic job. He ordered the part, called me and let me know when he was coming. He brought the new part and replaced it. Since then, there has been no water leak or anything at all on the heater. It seems like it has been working better than it did before.

I called American Home Shield on a Tuesday for a claim on my heater. However, I kept waiting for their contractor, Virginia Heating to call me. Their guy never called so I called and left him a message. He finally called back Wednesday and said that his phone was down. He also told me that the quickest he could get out would be on the next Tuesday. I asked him if he realized what the temp was and he said "yeah". Luckily, I had to end up going by two space heaters to keep us warm in the room we were in. American Home Shield needs to start trying to get some companies that are within the town of their policyholders. There are places like Cundiff and Southern Air in my hometown. Instead, the company they got was coming out of Rustburg, Virginia.

Still, the service was alright. Their tech came and assessed the problem then told us what to do. We told him that we would get the motor on order and that took about a day to get. Thereafter, he came again that Thursday and installed it. Since the repair, the heater has been working great. I left American Home Shield once and tried another company and I didn't like it. I had to come back. AHS gets the work done or gets me hooked up. If they recommend somebody who can't do the job, I can call them back and they will look into somebody else.

My microwave and dryer went at the same time. Our microwave, every time you open up the door, it just came on without having to push any buttons. When I open up the door, it'd just start cooking. And if I put something in and shut the door, it'd go off. But when I push the buttons and then hit start, it starts. My wife called American Home Shield to submit a claim and they sent us an email with Bell's Appliance on it within 48 hours. Bell's Appliance contacted us and then, we set time for them to come out and they came within a week. We just put in a request to call 30 minutes out to make sure somebody was here or somebody was able to get here. Once they got here, they were very professional. They assessed the issue and they went and did their thing. They let us know what their report was on what they saw. And then, we just went from there.

When they took the microwave apart, the old motherboard was fried. A replacement was required at that point and it took almost a week before we got the unit because we went on a little vacation. So far, we’re very satisfied with AHS. In fact, my whole family has AHS. We love it. It’s just like insurance. You’re paying and you don’t really need it. But when you need it, it works out for you. So, we’ve been blessed with it.

I sent them a claim for my dryer online and the site was direct and very easy to use. Their contractor then called and asked me what kind of appliance it was and they sent somebody specifically for that, which was great. So, they were knowledgeable about the appliance. That was on a Friday, and then they came out on Monday. They brought a part for the dyer and then it was working. They fixed it completely. They didn't keep us without a dryer which was great.

AHS' usually very prompt when I call in for a claim. They would ask us for the account number and they would get the job done. When we called for the heating in my living room, it happened on the coldest weekend. But by that Monday, Sean Electric called us, so they took care of it right away. The technician was very good, efficient, neat and friendly. He looked at the baseboard heating and the radiators were burned out. He knew what he had to do to correct the problem and was very careful not to damage anything in the house. I have parqueted floors and wooden walls so he just didn’t rip anything off.

My husband had labeled all the circuits in the house so when the technician went down, he knew which circuits to shut off so he could work on the electrical. However, one radiator's wiring was a little hard to figure out ‘cause not anything that he was doing was the way they did it in the house originally. It took quite a while for him to repair the issue but he fixed it and did a good job.

I've been using American Home Shield for 18 years and I’m very satisfied with them. When people say that I'm paying that much money for the year and I don’t use it, I say it doesn’t matter because when there are unexpected breakages, I have to get somebody on the outside. I could pay the co-pay, but where am I gonna get $500 to pay people just to come in and look at it? So having a warranty is very valuable. It’s also good for people starting out and even people that aren’t that sure to have it, unless you’re rich.

We were smelling gas coming from the furnace and there was also a leak. I used American Home Shield's online service to file a claim. It was simple except it's confusing when you own multiple properties such as myself. When you're trying to submit a claim for the first time, it's set to a default location. And so, if you need to submit a new claim instead of there being a dropdown that you can select other properties and continue on, you have to back out and then start all over. So, it's not convenient in that way. If you have just one property, it's straightforward. Also, if you're filing for the first time, then it's not really that great of an experience because it takes you to an area of the site where you would have had previous claims and you haven't set up an initial claim first.

The contractors were good. They were professional and they provided explanation such that the leak was actually coming from the humidifier which isn't covered under the warranty, but they did tell me what the issue was and how I could even do it myself which was good because that saved me some money. American Home Shield has a long list of what's covered, but it is very generic. I'm not a professional in the home improvement industry. I'm a basic Do-It-Yourselfer. And when it came time for addressing the issue with the furnace, I just see a huge furnace. But I don’t know that the humidifier which is attached to the furnace is something that they didn’t cover. I just see it as one unit. So, if there's a way to spell out these sort of specifics, it would be good. Other than that, I would recommend AHS.

Most other home warranty companies say that they cover things but they don't. They try to find loopholes, but American Home Shield doesn't. So far, I only had one claim and AHS sent out an AC company that has negative reviews. They were a terrible company.

This company's customer service rep screamed and cursed. And typically, they go to the house and evaluate and then call for payment. They told me that and I said, "Okay." But then, the tenant called and said that they left after the tenant took off work. So I called the company back and told them to please go back, and that we'll pay them but they didn't. They will never be allowed on our property again and we'll never work with that company. But when I let AHS know about it, they followed up with a great company. All in all, other than vetting their contractors a little better, everything else was a smooth process.

We weren't sure if the furnace needed to be replaced or just what was needed to be done. Plus, it had to be cleaned out and a few other things done to it. The contractors did a good job and made sure things were satisfactory. They took care of the issues on the same day. All were done fast and good and we had no problems. Both were taken care of and the ice maker works fine now, so my husband and I are both satisfied. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

I've had American Home Shield for over 20 years but their service is getting down every day. They used to be very good, but not anymore. When I had a hole in my sink and I called them, the guy who picked up the phone could not speak proper English. I told him not to send any plumber if AHS wouldn't replace or fix the bathroom. The AHS rep said that it is covered, but when the plumber came, he said that they don’t cover it. The rep should have said right away that they don't cover it when I asked, so then I could have hired somebody else. I have two houses with AHS. Why am I paying if nothing is covered? Also, it's always very hard to reach them. I was on the phone for a whole 90 minutes. I'm not gonna use AHS. I already cancelled mine and I still have one for my personal home. I want to cancel that too.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been very easy. I’ve done two things with them, which both have been fine from their end, and I paid the $75 over the phone, so I didn't wait until after the people had come. And, that has worked out very well. The first claim I had was for the water heater. I noticed that when the plumbing company came out, they had certain repairs they had to call American Home Sheild to get authorization. Then, they ended up coming out three times for the water heater before they got the parts. Every time they came out though, they were very polite. American Home Shield then evidently felt it could be repaired and it didn't have to be replaced. The plumbing company did a great job and I was very pleased with them.

The other claim I had was for the toilet as it was leaking water and I didn’t wanna run up the water bill. I figured they had to replace a part of the toilet, but it turned out they didn’t. Marino Plumbing came out and they were very good, friendly and professional. They said that I needed to buy a seal that goes on the bottom and it would stop the water from leaking. So, they didn’t actually fix it because they didn’t have a seal with them. I paid the $75 for a toilet fix and nothing was done, but I understand that. The only complaint is to myself. I should’ve figured out that maybe it’s some kind of seal. I can go get it myself without calling American Home Shield. Overall, I've had good experience with this warranty company. In fact, we’re planning on renewing it in April when it comes up.

The plumber couldn’t do anything on the other one too because it was my son who broke the tank lid on it. Other than that, he did a good job. When the furnace was just blowing cold air and the house was cold, submitting a claim for it went fine. The contractor who came out was helpful. He came and went upstairs. He checked the furnace out, did a couple of things, and then got the furnace running quickly. It was a very good experience and everything seems to be fine. We've had good experiences and bad experiences with AHS. The furnace was a simple fix. It seems like when it's a simple thing, it goes smoothly. But when there is a major issue then it takes a little time to get it cleared up. We had a dishwasher issue that dragged on for two to three months trying to get that worked out. So, that was a bit frustrating. But all in all, AHS is a good service, and it's easy to use.

I like submitting a claim online. The computer is a lot more concise and easier to use. American Home Shield also has a direct contact via the computer. Sometimes, when I'm trying to call somebody over the phone, either the line is busy or no one is there. But I've never had a problem with any of the techs who come over. They're all very professional and friendly. I've been very pleased. We've had the techs out for the hot water heater, the dishwasher, the air conditioner compressor, toilets and the dishwasher in the kitchen, and they’ve always done extremely a good job for us. We could talk to them and we don’t get the feeling like they're holier-than-thou.

The fella who came for the toilets had to replace both of those pieces in there, and then he also had to level the toilet because it was kind of rocking. However, I was a little surprised that American Home Shield was offering to put up our HD TVs on the wall for $100. But that was no big deal. We can do the same thing with Best Buy. They do the same thing at the same price. AHS does a good job as long as they stay in their area of professionalism. But they start branching out, and sometimes it doesn’t always work best for somebody. Even so, I'm very impressed with the type of work they do.

American Home Shield has been great. We had a different home warranty company, and we switched to AHS. With the one that we had before, we had a repair done at one point, and we really didn’t like the person that they sent. They weren't very professional, and they seemed to be looking for excuses not to do work. I called AHS for our dishwasher and I spoke to a person, but I didn’t book anything that day because it had something to do with the weekend. So, we ended up calling back on Monday, and then doing that through the automated system and booking through it as well. They booked us for one or two days in the future, but then they got a cancellation and sent someone immediately.

The guy who fixed our dishwasher was terrific. He did a great job and took care of everything. He was very professional, too. He needed a part and he could have had the part the next day, but I wasn’t gonna be home, so he ended up coming back two days later. We're very happy with AHS. Our dishwasher needed a major repair, and we were very grateful we had the service. We were thrilled that it all worked out.

The concern I have is that I have a dishwasher that has been repaired four times within two years and a different tech keeps replacing the same part. According to AHS policy, they will continue this process as long as the tech says the appliance is repairable regardless of the number of times the appliance has been repaired. Each time I submit a request for service for this dishwasher, it costs me a day of work, $75 for the service, and in one instance a rude tech.

As a customer, you would think that AHS would consider the number of times that an appliance has been repaired and try to determine the root cause of the problem. But according to a supervisor in Memphis, TN, continuing to send a tech makes good business sense for the company instead of exploring other options. Also, according to the supervisor, there is no way to write a letter to Corporate HQs. You would think that the leaders in the Corporate HQs would want to get feedback from their customers.

However, they keep sending a technician out to piece the parts back together, causing me much time off work for each time they had to come out. So far we on our 3rd try within 4 months, which for me is 8 hours of work, 24 hours of lost wages. The other problem with this company is the long wait time to speak to someone. I called American Home Shield to file a claim for a main sewer line clog on Monday. The initial plumber sent by AHS came out on Tuesday but could not clear the line clog and said someone else would need to be sent out. He left the cap off of the access port in the garage so sewage backed up into my garage, which I had to clean up. The second plumber did not come out until Wednesday afternoon. He also could not clear the clog and said the line needed to be hydro jetted and he did not have the proper equipment. He left spilled sewage around the access port in the garage when he left.

I had to call AHS on Thursday since no one had gotten back to me. The rep advised that the plumber reported that the clog was 100+ feet out and therefore AHS was denying my claim, as this was outside the coverage distance. I had to pay my own plumber who cleared the clog in 30 minutes. He advised that the main city line is only 94 feet from the access port inside the garage, so there is no way the clog was 100+ and outside the coverage distance. I contacted AHS and asked to speak with a supervisor to request reimbursement since the claim should have been covered. I was on hold 30 minutes then disconnected. I called back and advised I was disconnected and placed on hold another 30 minutes and then disconnected AGAIN.

I called back a third time and spoke to a rep and explained my issue. I finally got a supervisor on the line who advised that since the AHS plumber reported the clog was 100+ feet out, they would not reimburse. He did not care that the main city line is only 94 feet out so the claim should have been honored. I will be taking the company through arbitration, which is a requirement per the service contract. Very dissatisfied customer.

This is a simple repair of a dryer. Dryer takes too long to dry (1.5 hours for a couple of towels). Dryer service contractor came said the hose was crimped and fixed it, cleaned out lint trapped from hose and inside dryer. They completed their part of the job and stated still need another type of contractor to come out that can blow out vent from dryer to outside to complete the job and get dryer working properly. Pretty simple! This is what he reported back to AHS. Called AHS and they can't find my account. Found my service call but can't do anything with it because they can't find my account. Call back in 4 days. WHAT? I have to wait because their system error.

OK, 3 weeks with no dryer now. 4th call to AHS and now a rep that wants to set up a new ticket with another service call fee. I must have explained this very simple follow up 10 times... This is the original problem just needs 2 types of contractors to complete the repair. The rep (now on the phone for 45 minutes) does not get it and keeps repeating the same wrong statements over and over. Keeps saying "I'll set up a new ticket." I get an email and it's a whole new work order with the same damn service contractor that's been here twice. OMG!

I asked for a supervisor about 15 times. I've not been on the phone over an hour. Same rep comes back and says "I'm going to set up a repair ticket and send the contractor back." "NOOO! Get me a supervisor." Then he literally says "can you explain the problem again." Are you joking? I explain for the umpteenth time, even use an analogy. You go to the dentist for a toothache, dentist refers you to an oral surgeon to have tooth pulled. It's the same damn tooth but requires to different specialist. Puts me on hold after I have now raised my tone and said "I'm not going to ask again, GET ME A SUPERVISOR." Comes back and asks if he can put in a ticket for a work order. WHAT IS THIS ALTERNATE UNIVERSE? I, for the 20th time demand to speak with a supervisor.

After another 15 min of hold he comes back to say the supervisor is talking to someone so can I hold. I've been on hold again for 30 minutes. Still on hold as I write this. Is there only one freaking supervisor for the entire customer service department. I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW. This company must be outsourcing with completely inexperienced reps, unprofessional and I will never renew my service contract with them. In the meantime, I have no dryer. Paid over $450 for warranty protection. Am getting absolutely ZERO service or resolution. OMG, OMG, OMG. The call was just disconnected!

Called on January 2 and was told to email my invoice and proof of payment in order to receive reimbursement in 10-14 days. Got a confirmation email but heard nothing after that. I called back on January 21 (on hold 45+ minutes) to get a status and was told that they didn't have any record of receiving my email (even though I received a confirmation email on 1/2).

Sent 2nd email on Jan 21. Called again the following week and was told I had to wait 14-21 days from Jan 21 before I could receive a status update. Now it's February 15. Still no reimbursement and no one in customer service can seem to contact the Accounting department that handles reimbursements. It takes 45+ minutes to get anyone on the phone just to be told that I looks like it's in process. UNACCEPTABLE! I've paid my contract fee twice in the time that I've had to wait for my reimbursement. I really hope someone at AHS will see this review and do something about the Accounting Dept and the extreme wait times for customer service. A week later I called AHS to determine the status. I was told the part was ordered the previous day, 6 days after the contractor requested it. Conclusion the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Why have I made all the calls and still no results as I boil pots of water and see that my account has been deducted for $100 and pray that my pipes will thaw with no further damage.

Afternoon: I have now been told by AHS that once the plumber is finished with his personal affairs, he will take care of me. Did you really have to tell me that?

I've been with American Home Shield for about two years now. When I submit my claims to them, I do it online as it's easier and faster. Their customer service is very good. I've also had good interactions with the contractors that they've sent out. With our claim for the washing machine that needed to be repaired, it wasn't decided and I had to call back to see what was going on because I found out that the reason the washing machine was banging and making a sound was that the bearings had to be replaced. So, the contractors coming from American Home Shield had to be contacted back, which nobody did. I had to call American Home Shield to find out that the washing machine was just being replaced.

I called them on the types of washing machine and I’ve come to find out that the brand I was buying wasn’t the same brand. It had been bought out by GE and I was reading a lot of issues with GE washing machines. American Home Shield is also very particular about the brand they offer. They offer only GE, Maytag and a few American-made products which are sub-par. So, I went on my own and bought an LG.

They reimbursed me although it wasn't a full amount because the LG washing machine was more expensive. The reimbursement ended up being about a little more than half for what I paid for. So, we replaced the washing machine, but unfortunately, the faucet coming up to the washing machine was the one that was leaking. Peoples Plumbing came out and then they repaired it. Overall, it's been pretty good with American Home Shield. I have recommended to people to contact them because when things go bad, it's very expensive for homeowners.

On February 1st, I called American Home Shield because my downstairs sink and my upstairs bathtub were clogged. So, Street Plumbing & Rooter came out, and it was unclogged temporarily. And on February 8th, my bathtub upstairs clogged again, so I called them, and they sent the same technician, Joe, out. So, he unclogged it. And then they called and told me I owed them another $75, and I told them that that was a redo. So, he said it was something different. But I had my receipts here and on the recording where it was my bathtub clogged again. He came up first and unclogged it, and it wasn’t unclogged, so he came out again to unclog it.

Also, my sink downstairs was clogged up again on Friday. It was the same sink. So, I called them, and there was that $75 on my bill, and I couldn't request anything. So I paid it with a credit card for them to send somebody out to unclog it. But I haven't heard from anybody yet. And I spoke with the supervisor and several other people about it before I filed the claim. And one said that the plumber had not submitted any paperwork. But the second time then, somebody told me that he heard I said it was a different issue. I said that I’d requested that the first time, but it was the bathtub and the sink. Other than that, I’m very pleased with AHS. The contractors have done very great performance and they're very nice mannered. And that is nice because I’m 74, and I’d be here by myself a lot, and I’m really leery about people coming in and out of my house.

In my most recent claim experience, Tom Melton Services was sent because I had water leaking from my ceiling light in my kitchen. I thought that I might've had a broken pipe. But after the gentleman looked around, came upstairs and checked out the bathroom and the lighting downstairs where the leak was, he came to the conclusion that the leak was caused by bad caulking in the tub. He let me know that that tub needed to be re-caulked and that was not something my contract covered as well as not something that he could do. I said, "That's fine," and I was glad to know that it was not something more serious. Everything worked out well.

I usually call American Home Shield to file my claims as I prefer to talk to someone personally. But if I have to wait more than 10 minutes on the phone, I will do it online. The website navigation is very good and I also do it on my phone. I'm not computer savvy and I've never had any problems with it. I've already filed several requests over the last four years. Everyone that I have ever been in contact with who works for American Home Shield has always been professional, polite, and has helped me as well as they were able to, which has always been good. Everyone that has been here, with the exception of one, has been very good. I've always been very pleased with American Home Shield and that's why I continue to use them.

Almost every piece of plumbing in the new house leaked. Water dripped from three faucets and two toilets didn't flush properly. In addition, a hose was rusted onto a washing machine feed. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield on the web. But the web interface didn't have enough choices so there was a follow-up phone call.

The guy they sent out from Price Right Plumbing & Drain Cleaning came out the next day and came within five minutes of when they said they were gonna be here. He was here for about 30 minutes and did a good job. . It was all really simple stuff for a plumber, but it would've taken me days, and I probably would've screwed it up. So they did a good job. Other than that, when I made my first claim with AHS, I was on a phone call and the rep asked me about rekeying my locks. I told her I needed to do that. The next day, a guy came out and rekeyed all my locks.

We were selling our house and during the inspection, the inspectors found what they thought could be the plumbing issue. They thought it was a leak up on one of the sinks. I called American Home Shield and they responded pretty fast. Once I call and put the request in, a contractor calls me right away like the next day or sometimes on the day of. I then work with the contractor to schedule something based on my schedule. For my plumbing issue, a technician from M&E Plumbing came out to check but found that there was no issue. He said it was just a loose screw so he fixed that. There was also a stoppage in the upstairs bathroom and he said they'll stop it. They took care of whatever they needed to that day.

Once the claim had been filed, they contacted us that day. We got a notice from them right away and the next day they called to set up an appointment. The techs that came out were very nice and the repair went very smoothly. They looked at the heater and tried some things. But they didn't have a part and needed to order it. That took a week and then they came and installed the part. The heater has been working since the repair. In the three years or more that we've had our warranty with AHS, that was our first claim with them and the experience that we've had has been good. When I pulled up American Home Shield online, it came on my phone as file a claim. It went off from my cellphone number and they pulled up everything and asked if it was me. I’m a real estate agent, so I know which companies are notorious for having long phone lines. HSA and American Home Shield both seemed to have long phone lines. They could take up to 45 minutes for somebody to pick up the phone and I didn’t wanna deal with that.

More recently, our furnace wasn’t working. We were in the middle of a cold snap, so it would just keep on running. Even in the summertime, when our AC runs a little too high and it’s 100 degrees, we expect that. Also, when it’s -4, you expect that from the furnace, but it wasn’t kicking back on. It would run, shut off in 15 minutes and then take an hour to reset. So we would have to go up to the thermostat and flick it on and off to force it to run. The motherboard and two of the sensors had gone bad.

The process needed to be really quick and easy for me. AHS asked what the problem was and I told them it was a gas furnace. Within seconds, Hansen Mechanical sent me a text message saying they've been assigned to my case and someone will reach out to me in 24 hours. It was great. The guys who came over said we need a new furnace, and so they went ahead and put the order in, and corrected everything. It just took time and a little bit of patience, and not blaming anybody, other than just straight up problem-solving. They were complete professionals and they didn't make anything up. They weren’t there to add things on. Instead, they told me what they found, what we’ve ordered, and that they'll call me and be back the next day.

AHS's contractor fixed the issues I had, but thereafter, we found out the heat exchanger turned around and remelted everything so we had to call them back. Within 24 hours, I was already emailing them back because the sensors are tripped, and they were not working right. It turned out that the problem was the filter. The guy said we didn’t need a filter since it’s winter and everything’s closed up. So we ran the sensors without a filter. Everything was reset, and that was it.

I had 2 plumbing claims where the first one was in January for a sink clog and the second one was a week or two later for a leak in the drain under the sink. I went online and scheduled the repair. Navigating the American Home Shield website was easy and a contractor was dispatched within 2 days. When the contractor arrived, we had a good interaction and he told me what he was gonna do. He had to cut off a piece on the pipe, make a connection, and then re-plumb. Everything has been operating perfectly since the repair and I didn't have to put a pan under the kitchen sink anymore. I was completely satisfied with both the plumber and American Home Shield.

Right now, having a warranty is about a wash. For what it cost me, I could’ve probably made the repairs I requested. But at the same time, I'm covered in case my furnace breaks which would then be a big repair expense. In general, I'm happy to have American Home Shield insurance and it's been a good experience. I also tell anyone inquiring about getting them that it's a good idea.

We were out of air for 30 days. It was very aggravating and a horrible disappointment with AHS. They should make sure they verify the correct parts and equipment.

When the pump went out and we had no water at our house, we had a good experience submitting the claim. And the contractor they sent was very knowledgeable. The contractor came out on a workday and verified the part. Then, they had to wait until Monday to get approval from AHS for the pump, but once that happened we were able to get it repaired. They had to pull the pump out of the well and replace it. I did have to replace the wire though. AHS didn’t cover the wire or the pressure switch. It took four days for everything to be completed.

Updated on 04/06/2019: Proven Professional, the company who had gotten my claim, came out in January and the invoice that came from them has the invoice number and the authorization from American Home Shield. It also says that the water heater located in the crawl space had not been heating water properly. It was taking a while to get hot and they noticed a leak at the water heater. The top was rusted out and the expansion tank was damaged as well. That was on January 21st. After they changed the valves, they told us to call back if it didn't work so it can get replaced. It didn’t work, so on February 19th, I called them back out and they replaced the water heater. I paid for the expansion tank and some valves, which AHS said were covered. Proven Professional tried to act like the expansion tank was not damaged.

I had paid for the expansion tank, so I called the company to get my refund and they said that it was not damaged, and because of it, it didn’t need to be replaced. They refused to give my money back and said that I wanted to get it done so that I can have it new with the other stuff. But I paid to get it done because I was selling my house. I provided the invoices to a lady at AHS who did an investigation. I spoke to a manager at Proven Professional who was very irate and said that they went over everything with me, I agreed to have the service done, and so that was what I paid for and I need to go through AHS.

So, I went back to AHS, and the rep asked if I had any proof where they said that the expansion tank was damaged. I told her that I had my invoices that state that it was damaged and needed to be repaired. She told me to send them to her. When I called Proven Professional, they had their own invoices and they refused to read the invoice that states it was damaged. I sent the invoices to the rep at AHS and she called Proven Professional to ask them the same questions. She also said that they were very rude. They denied everything. When I sent her the invoices, it proved I was telling the truth. She said that AHS was gonna send me a check to cover the service.

The rep at AHS said that she was reporting that company to the escalated claims department because of how they were doing business so that it would be an alert. She was awesome. She did great. She went through everything with me and verified my invoices, but I haven’t received a check from AHS and that was supposed to be done within two weeks. It’s been almost a month now. I also never got my refund from Proven Professional. So then, I would go through my credit card company. AHS was fine. It was the contractor for this that was not right. But I have no interest in doing business with AHS, given by their professionalism with these invoices I have. They contradicted what they’re stating and I paid more than I should have out-of-pocket for something that should have been covered.

Original Review: Water heater is being replaced $690 and is covered under warranty; however, the additional regulated code parts will cost $525.53, which is a denial fee that the warranty does not cover. This is upsetting as having a warranty is to assist homeowner with high costs at time of repair. Yet, to replace the water heater, I'm paying more than I pay for my yearly membership. Not happy!

They were polite, on time, very knowledgeable, and got the job done quickly. We had a switch that kept malfunctioning, so it was causing our freezer out in the garage to go out. The guys were able to get it repaired. And so far, we haven't had problems since they came out.

I had issues with the AC. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent out a contractor. To get everything fixed, the techs had to come out three times. But there was one day in between the times that they came out, so the repair took a total of five days. Every time they left, the AC was working. Then it would stop and they would come back out and resolve a separate issue with it. Nevertheless, it was a good experience and I’m very pleased with AHS' service.

I have been with American Home Shield for about 12 years now and when submitting claims, I've done both online and over the phone. I prefer over the phone, however, it takes so long to do it because their line is so backed up. I can be on hold for half an hour or 45 minutes. It is easy doing online because it's quick. The website is very easy to navigate. They always get me a contractor right away, however, there are some contractors who are good, while some are not. Sometimes it works out, but sometimes it doesn't.

For instance, I had a heating issue last year. The heater was working, but it was leaking water in the inside. AHS sent this one contractor out a couple of times. He asked a lot and he didn't fix it. I had another issue and the same guy came out, nothing got done as well. I was having a heating issue this time, the boiler wasn't firing up and the house wasn't getting warm. A part had to be replaced. I specifically called AHS and told them not to send that particular contractor and that was not an easy process because I was on hold for at least half hour. They sent JG Services out, took care of it the same day and were on time. The issue got fixed and I didn't have any problems.

I have a water heater issue. The guy came out last week and he got the power lit. I told him that the water wasn't getting that hot and he said that he couldn't see anything wrong with it. As soon as he left, the water was just lukewarm. Now, it's not getting hot at all. I did a recall that the contractor called and told me that they'd come out between 8:00 to 12:00. When I called them, they said that they didn't have me on their schedule but they could squeeze me in from 12:00 to 3:00 and I said okay. I left work early and I was home waiting. It was almost 3 o'clock, but they were not here.

It really depends on what contractor you get. You can get one that's gonna have to do what he's supposed to be doing or you can get another who's gonna beat around the bush. I never really had an issue with the quality of their work once they do what they're supposed to do, it's just getting it done. I also feel like the AHS customer service is going downhill as far as being able to personally get somebody on the phone.

He thoroughly searched the refrigerator and he had to get online because he didn’t know if he had to order a new part, but he was able to fix it without a new part. We've had American Home Shield for four years now and it's worth the money. So far, it's only the little things that we've had to call. Like two years ago, the dishwasher broke, and it's one of those things that it's not what if, it's when. Eventually, you will gonna need them, and I can't even count how many times I've had to call them for a problem with the pump on our in-ground pool.

Also the washer on the spin cycle was making a horrendous, almost sounding like a siren noise. In fact, the noise was so loud, the cat ran away and wouldn't come out for hours. Whenever I have problems with my stuff, I always submit my claim online to American Home Shield. Their website is easy to use. I've never had a problem with it. The technicians they've sent from Jack's Appliances are also beyond knowledgeable. They were very efficient and quick as well. It's funny because the same kid who came out when my refrigerator broke came out again for my washer. I looked at him and said, "You do realize I don't have a damn clue what the hell you're talking about." He just looked at me and smiled. He was very good and personable. Jack's Appliances is not just a business. It's all about customer service, and they do a great job.

I keep telling one of my daughters back in New York who owns a condo that she rents out that AHS is worth the $50 a month. I tell her that if something happens, they'll replace it. We've had something that would actually be replaced. At first, I was a bit leery so I called the place that the order was given to, and they'll be out with a new washer, which is good.

I was having issues with my garage door. It wasn’t opening properly, which seems to be due to the capacitor being dead. I wanted someone to come and look at it, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it online. It was very straightforward. I selected whatever issue I had and scheduled the appointment. When I submitted my work order, it went to the next site, which was the vendor site. However, after that, there was no clue or notification, which could advise me that the vendor is looking for a timeframe, which I gave. As there was no instruction, I clicked on the next button but it did not go to the next stage. That was slightly confusing. AHS should put a note to advise the consumer that they had just submitted and I that have to wait for their confirmation to move further.

Nevertheless, the service that I received from the guy from Smokey’s Garage Door was professional. I gave him a window of 7:00 to 10:00 in the morning. He gave me a call before coming to my home and gave me a 20-minute window. He came on time. He understood my problem and answered all the questions that I had regarding the garage door opener. He replaced the capacitor as well as the broken one stop bar. So far, everything has been working good.

There was a leak and I called American Home Shield for a repair. They had sent Sirius and the technician determined the need for a whole new unit. At first, it was just gonna be a dispenser, which was leaking, and then the tech changed it to a whole new unit. It involved waiting for the part to come in. It was initially gonna be a two-week wait and it turned out to be a day or two shorter than the initial timeframe that was given. However, the technician who came out first noted on his work order to just replace the dispenser rather than the whole unit. That did not only caused confusion but a little disappointment too as we had water shooting out of the dispenser as well. To this day, that’s still an issue at hand that we had just been dealing with. But it was something that was supposed to have been replaced also.

When I brought the problem to Sirius’ attention, they told me that I needed to call American Home Shield. AHS told me that I didn’t have the dispenser listed on the initial call. But it was the technician of Sirius who had determined that there was a need for the replacement. And so, when I spoke to the AHS rep, I tried to explain that the determination was made by the expert, which was the technician. And that’s where it was left at. There’s definitely a room for improvement with the communication.

The heater was blowing out air, but it wasn’t hot. The claims process online was really simple and it took only a few hours for me to get a response. A contractor from Joe Cools was sent out, and he was wonderful. He opened up the unit and he said that it was due to some sort of a fire sensor and that there had been a buildup of carbon on the outside of that which is not uncommon. He detached the small sensor and he ran some sandpaper over it. He then reinstalled it and this thing fired right up.

I got a small lesson on how to do that as he taught me how to do it myself. He said that while he doesn't mind coming out for these kinds of calls, this is the kind of thing that he doesn't want us to have to call them for because it's easy. But if this thing ever really breaks, that's what he'd be here for. That was pretty honest of him. He was a really great guy and he was really professional, and since the repair, the heater has worked like a champ. Joe Cools did a great job.

The plumbing company said they would then submit a claim of damage to AHS for replacement approval, and their (AHS) reply could take 24-48 hours. I didn't want to be without hot water for 3-4 days, so I called AHS to ask for another contractor. They said there was no one else on their list that could get there sooner. I asked what I was supposed to do without hot water for a week. They said they were sorry, but this is their policy. I asked them to cancel my warranty and send me a refund. I don't believe this is how an emergency warranty repair should be handled. I won't recommend AHS to anyone!

I place multiple calls to AHS in an attempt to resolve the issue, however, their customer service is horrible! After being without hot water for more than 21 days I was forced to rectify the problem without using AHS and immediately called to cancel my contract. AHS also responded to my BBB complaint by providing false information to the BBB and claiming the failure was my fault and not covered under the contract when it actually was! We really like American Home Shield and we are satisfied with them. When we sold our house in Florida and came here, we put the Shield on our big home in Florida. We paid for three years for the people who bought it and then we got them too when they didn’t offer one with our property. Then, over the weekend, we were without heat for over six hours. Our new furnace is about two and a half years and we tried to get heat. I did everything and got it going for a while. I turned the thermostat off, opened a little door and made sure that everything was set to auto then I shut it off. I thought the first time that I pushed it all the way to air conditioning and I was sure I did to make sure that the fan would run. Then, I switched it back on and turned up the thermostat. It came on but it didn’t shut off.

It was really cold so, I went online to American Home Shield, looked it up and put in all the symptoms. It told me what to do which was great as I did not know where the parts of our new furnace where. A contractor came out on the 30th of January and we told him what we did. He checked all around but he couldn’t find what was wrong. He changed out the thermostat to a different one. I was not sure that I like it that well yet and he told me to call him if I did not get along with it because thermostats are interchangeable. He also said that the flame sensor needs to be cleaned off and he tried a few other things in there. He showed my grandson what to do and he said to use a Scotch Brite.

After that, everything went well. The contractor checked everything then he put the new thermostat on. It worked fine then he waited for it to shut off and come back on. He checked to make sure that it really was coming up to the temperature. But, Friday night, we thought we were getting sick because we were so cold so, we were bundled up for Friday and Saturday, shaking and cold thinking we must have come down with something because we just had the furnace fixed and it was not working. It was on the weekend again so we knew there was nothing we could do until Monday morning. We called in again and the same guy came out. He said he wanted to check it and he told AHS he was gonna work us in because he had to get out here and see what was going on.

He went in and undid a couple of wire nets. He checked to make sure that maybe the vibration was at least working but he still couldn’t find anything wrong. Then, he put everything back together again. He came in here and checked again on the thermostat to make sure it wasn’t rattling loose. I told him that we need a different one and the top button gets stuck. So, he worked on it a little while, tried it and it came on. He stayed again to make sure it would shut off and come back on.

We went with American Home Shield with the old furnace and two and a half months after the 10-year warranty went out is when that dumb furnace went out. So, we had to buy a whole new one. We waited a whole week on the one they ordered to come in the middle of winter. That aside, we knew the guy from before when we had our old furnace. He was good and honest with us like we have known him for years. He told us that if anything happens, I can call him even if it is in the middle of the night or a weekend and he will come straight over. He also told us that he does not want us to be cold again.

I saw what he could offer and told him we were gonna do that ourselves, and then he offered to replace the toilet rather than repair it. I have replaced a number of toilets myself over the years, and it's not a pleasant thing to do, so if he was gonna do it at a decent price, I was going to go ahead and do it, but his price was ridiculous. The first claim I had with AHS was for a refrigerator which clogged up. The pan was overflowing so the techs cleaned that out. Then the next day, they came out for the washer and dryer. Something was wrong with the washer and that was fixed. I was very pleased with the service person that came out each time. She knew what was going on and took care of it.

But one of the techs charged me $75 and then the next one added tax to it and I never understood that. It was $81. I called AHS back on that and they couldn't explain the service fee. Also, I had AHS pull money out from my credit card instead of my bank account. They changed that and my payment schedule but I didn't want that. I got that straightened out and I just decided to go on and put it back on my bank account. Other than that, it went okay. They selected whichever company was next in line in my region, selected what type of payment I was gonna make and informed me that someone would call me back in 24 hours. But it was quicker. I was contacted in two hours. The technician from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas arrived on time and got it all fixed within one hour. He picked up the circuit board, came back and fixed it. He did an excellent job and the heater has been great since then.

My brother is a real estate agent and he recommended that we get American Home Shield or just a warranty program in general after we paid $7,000 to replace an air conditioner many years ago. We had American Home Shield for a while and then, my mother had OneGuard. She thought that I should try OneGuard so, I did for a couple of months and had an issue with a faucet. It took them two weeks to tell me they weren’t gonna cover it. I had them cancel my membership with OneGuard immediately and I went back to American Home Shield and I’ve been happy ever since.

Most recently, my heater was not heating and it was blowing cold air. I submitted a claim online and A-TX came out. The guy called before he came just as they’re supposed to do, came on time, and went up in the attic. He determined that the problem was some relay switch for the flame and he went out to his car, got the part, went back up in the attic, fixed it and left. It was perfectly fine. But the plumber from MacLin Plumbing they sent out to fix my hot water heater was atrocious and I’ve had neighbors who’ve had horrible experiences with them as well. I reported them back to American Home Shield but I got disconnected with the rep and I didn’t have time to call back and wait for them to get back through. Other than that, American Home Shield is fine and I've never had an issue with my coverage. They’ve been really good to me.

Our real estate agent signed us up for the American Home Shield warranty and said that we definitely may want to get all of the locks re-keyed so that all the keys would be the changed and be different, and nobody else would have any of that. So, we filed a claim with AHS to replace some keys. The contractor was able to come out and help us within one or two days at the most. They were very professional and I would speak very highly of the way they did the job. Although my wife went about the claims process, I was there when the technician came day to day. The guy did a good job and I'm very content with his work. I've got nothing but high-rank comments and good things to say about him.

He was like a business, and he went in there and he fixed the noise, but they had to come back the next couple of days because the sensor wasn't working. Every time I would turn it on, it wasn't getting as warm. And then, after two minutes, it would cut off. When we had a washing machine that went bad, A&P Appliance came out and it was fantastic dealing with them. The guy came to the door and even took his shoes off to come in. I told him he didn't have to worry about that but he said it was all right. He was very courteous and accommodating in answering all of our questions so they were topnotch. They evaluated and found out that there was a bearing in the washing machine that was too expensive to repair. So they went ahead and initiated us to go ahead and get a new washing machine through Home Shield.

The only problem I found is that it took me 45 minutes to actually talk to somebody with Home Shield. They originally left me a voice mail saying that they needed some more information on the appliance. They asked me to call them back at a number so I called back. I went through a phone tree and then I got the music on hold. I called twice and one was 30 minutes long; the other was 45 minutes. They said they were experiencing high call volume at the time. It was possibly because there was the cold snap back on the East Coast though. Nonetheless, they covered all the bases that they needed to cover. I talked to them over the phone and they wanted to know more about the unit – the size, the model and the color. They did a fantastic job.

They haven't replaced it yet and that's the dilemma we're going through. A delivery company had delivered the washer on Wednesday but as they got up to the garage door, they noticed that the clean-out door at the bottom was broken so they took it back. I got a call that they're gonna deliver the new one this coming Monday and hopefully, they can because we're getting a lot of snow this weekend. So the delivery company is gonna bring it and install it. It won't be the appliance company. All in all, I would recommend American Home Shield.

The rep told me that they were short of plumbers in Salem because NW Sundance is from Tigard which was a 30-minute drive. In the past, it usually takes a day or two which would not be any different if I call a plumber out of a phonebook. But, the contractor did a great job. He was in and out in less than an hour and he cleaned up underneath the sink even before he put stuff.

We also had NW Sundance for a plumbing issue years ago when we had the house repiped that had old cast iron pipes. When the guy did the snake thing, he put a hole in the pipe under the sink. They came back and fixed that once I discovered that had happened. Then, two weeks ago, I called American Home Shield about my garage door being broken and I had somebody out here two days later. He fixed the garage door in an hour and it works great. I’m really happy with my American Home Shield policy. It has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. The first one came out quickly and was responsive the first time but their work didn’t fix the problem. After that, they weren’t very responsive. The second contractor that we used was great but he was located about an hour plus outside of Atlanta so scheduling was tough. It took about two months before we got the system replaced. That was in the middle of winter and so it was terrible. It was difficult to do anything. But now, the whole thing is resolved and we have an entirely new heating system.

Honest review, not one filtered on the AHS website. Read the very fine print in this warranty - there are so many exclusions had I known before closing I would have shopped around. Some of the contractors they send will lie about work performed to make themselves look good to AHS, but you will still have a problem and/or and exclusion. It makes me very angry that they take advantage of consumers. This issue was a plumbing stoppage at 35 feet from the drain, which the technician told them he snaked through the toilet to 25 feet (which is not possible, BTW). This was my only request for service in two years and I was definitely taken advantage of -- I've paid $1,400 over two years to be denied over a trivial fine print issue. Now had the contractor brought the right equipment, that extra 10 feet wouldn't have been an issue to begin with. With my service call I have actually paid $1,475 and NO SERVICE. Buyer Beware!

We received our one year home warranty for our new home from our realtor as a gift for purchasing our home. After purchase of our home we did run into a few minor problems such as a water leak under the bathroom sink which was remedied by AHS and some electrical issues; outlets that were not functional that were remedied.

Our problem with AHS came when we had an issue that was a little more expensive. Our home is a new construction home. One of our toilets was found to have a fracture at the base of the toilet where the bolts are screwed to the floor. We contacted AHS and they sent Clear Flow Water Solutions to check out our claim, they also were the company that repaired the aforementioned water leak under bathroom sink. The technician that arrived said his opinion was that something had been dropped on the toilet base and therefore the toilet repair was not covered under warranty. When we took exception with his opinion since toilet was brand new and we knew of no damage, the technician then contacted AHS and we spoke to a representative of AHS and they agreed they would not cover the toilet repair.

In order to get this rectified, we needed to have our own plumber come and make the repair to the toilet which included the removal of broken toilet and reinstallation of a new toilet which cost us $388.99. His opinion was that the toilet had not been installed correctly, as the floor was uneven and there were no shims under the toilet. The plumber from Clear Flow had removed the old toilet when he came so he should have seen the same. In order to go after AHS for recovery of our charges, we needed to pay the American Arbitration Association, the contracted arbiter for AHS, $200 in order for the issue to be considered by AHS and resolved. Promptly upon paying the fee to AAA and filing the claim, AHS rolled over and paid our claim.

Don't bother with this company. They will not cover all the items they say they will cover if it will cost them too much. A few months after the arbitration, even though our year had not run out, we received a letter from AHS that we were no longer covered under the contract that they had given us for a year. As of today, 5 months after this incident, we still under contract have about one month of coverage. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. JUST SAVE YOURSELF FOR THE INEVITABLE REPAIRS YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE.

I have (had) four contracts with them and on two occasions they have sent or tried to send very substandard companies with terrible reviews. One even made up issues that didn’t exists to try and squeeze more money out of me.

Recently my air conditioning went out. In Florida that is a big deal! They could care less - actions speak louder than words. It has now been out going on 5 days. Company finally showed up today. Guy arrived 1.5 hours late costing me more time off work than planned. Determined it is the compressor leaking Freon and needs to be replaced. Ok, no problem. I notice he is packing up his gear only to find out that he thinks it will takes AHS ANOTHER 48hrs to review and maybe approve the repair.

When asked when he would be back he stated not sure, but PROBABLY over a week! Do yourself a favor and don’t use AHS or switch while you can to a more reputable company. Lastly, if you look at AHS customer service responses on this web site you’ll note that they are all the same copy and paste kind of responses. You have no way of knowing if they actually did anything for these people that already had to deal with the problems that AHS created in the 1st place.

Tech jiggled handle a little bit and flushed toilet twice, then said everything was fine. I receive a $125 service charge. I call and explain to billing that nothing was fixed that someone needed to come and fix the problem I had before it was worse. She put me on a brief hold and contacted the plumber they sent out then got back on the phone with me and told me that the plumber said that everything was fixed and they wanted their $125 service call charge.

Well, 5 months later I have a room full of water from the toilet that supposedly has been fixed. When I called again they said I never made a call back in regards towards the issue I had within a 60 day period (yes, I did, you told me there was nothing I could do until I paid the 125$). I had to explain to them that I did and I'm hoping that they record all of their phone conversations because they're going to need to go back and check this. Meanwhile I still have a room full of water in the same problem I was having before but now it is worse. I am having to get a second opinion and to have an evaluation done under my crawl space in regards to what kind of water damage has occurred. Meanwhile American Home Shield has been deducting their monthly charge and even renewed my contract. Not good at all.

Over the weekend I opened a service request ($100) and decided to cancel it, because the issue is intermittent and we were going to check for a fix (not a Band-Aid, like they did last time I called for the same issue), I canceled the request and it said I would receive a credit within 48 hours... The credit never happened. I called into them and found out that although their website gave me a message stating it would automatically credit me back in 48 hours - you have to actually call in and have them send a request to their accounting department to handle it... VERY MISLEADING! I'm in the electronic payment business and have NO IDEA why their system should not be able to automatically handle this. Bad business in my eyes. I'm just glad I knew enough to call in and not trust that it would happen.

I have paid my monthly insurance for 2 years. When my water heater broke, the plumber did not report it right to American Home Shield. Customer service could not help me find a solution besides for me to pay out of pocket $1,500 or another fee for someone else to come look at my water heater. I am not really sure what service I am paying for. This is really upsetting and I haven't had hot water for over a week.

Updated on 02/19/2019: I received a generic response (presumably so they can look good on this website) because I wrote a negative review, not because they want to resolve my problem. I responded to that response a week ago and have not heard back from them. I am now trying to cancel my plans. There was over an hour wait time to cancel my plans so the representative submitted a request to cancel. This was 5 days ago.

I have not received confirmation of cancellation. I called 4 days ago to cancel over the phone. Again I sat on hold for over 30 minutes before I had to hang up to take another call. I called today and I am currently 26 minutes on hold waiting to speak to a supervisor. There have been a few service calls that have gone well, but if you have to call them for any reason be prepared to waste hours of your time on hold and not receive anything in the way of "customer service."

Original Review: I have been trying to resolve an issue for over 3 months now, an issue which arose because AHS' phone system was not operational when I called initially. Every time I call is a 45 minute wait. I have been told by several customer service reps AND their supervisors that an email would be sent or a phone call made to resolve the issue, or they would call me back. So far I have been lied to 5 times in these regards. Despite reading the detailed notes left from the previous person I spoke to, each representative promises me that they will do something, and it does not get done. I feel like they simply want to get me off the phone by saying they will send an email to another department, and I should hear back soon. I have never heard back. I have spent over 4 hours on the phone or on hold to address this issue. Which is still unresolved.

I tried to cancel my plan, but I still have another open work order that has not been resolved in over 2 months. I call the contractor to check on the status, since they are not a 45 minute hold, and they say they have submitted their paperwork multiple times, but they are waiting on approval from AHS to fix my problem 2 MONTHS LATER.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim as we were having a big leak. This was my first claim and I only dealt with the automated system, but every time I’ve called in to check and update my coverages, everybody I’ve ever spoken with has been extremely helpful and more than willing to explain things to me. The company that was sent out to be the contractor for the job was wonderful, courteous and helpful. The leak started coming from the garbage disposal, so the guy replaced that and the leak stopped. He also made sure that nothing else was happening before he left. The job was finished within a day and I could not be happier.

The only thing that did not get done was the wood underneath the sink that was warped because of the water that leaked. It was not replaced, but that's not really on the repair company. However, I don't know if that is something that American Home Shield would fix. I wish AHS does a general follow-up where someone would call in and see if there was something that was not handled in the first initial construction, and if there was, how to move forward from there. Everything else was covered well.

They have assigned people to come to fix the problems very quickly. I have a tenant that lives at the condo, and AHS fixed a leak in the bath tub. Once or twice I’ve interfaced with the reps, and our experience has been good, so we’re happy with everything. We definitely recommend American Home Shield.

We've had a number of claims with American Home Shield over the last two years and everyone who has come out to the house has always been extremely professional and polite. They've also seemed to be very knowledgeable. They've always been able to figure out exactly what was wrong and fix it. When the water in our toilet was running consistently, we used the online claim service which is very easy to do. We used the website from the phone and it is just very easy to communicate that way. The repair company also corresponded with me right away so I was very happy that.

The gentleman who was coming to the house also called ahead of time to confirm that he was on his way. Then he was able to find the problem right away and it ended up being relatively minor. It was an old seal inside the toilet and he had the right part. He fixed the toilet and he was done within a matter of hours. I was very happy. In fact, I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield overall and I hope they’re able to continue the same level of service.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield has been easy and they fixed our dryer for us. The contractors they have sent have been great. They identify the problem, say they would submit the claim and then we usually get a call back. However, once their person comes out and finds something wrong, that person says that the problem is not part of their warranty. We have a problem with the lighting and they said something needs to be replaced but it's not covered. They also can't fix our microwave but then AHS says they don't replace it so we will have to buy another one ourselves. All the things that go wrong are not covered so there's no need for us to keep them as a warranty. New appliances come with their own warranty, so we won't need American Home Shield for those.

I had a rental house which I have since sold. When I had it, I had an American Home Shield warranty on it. I had to call them out three times for different issues. Obviously, I was happy with them then because I signed up with them again for my own house. For this home, I am starting on my second year with them. I'm very pleased with their service and I plan on staying with them.

Recently, I had a garbage disposal unit that leaked. I've usually submitted claims with AHS over the phone and everything was easy-peasy. I was very satisfied and happy with their speed in getting a service contractor out. The technician came out and checked the garbage disposal unit over, then he said that I needed a new one. I asked him if he had a new unit on hand or if he had to order it. He said that he had one out in the truck and that it wouldn't take him too long to take it out and put it in, and that was exactly what he did. He was here for at most two hours and he was able to get my problem solved that same day. He did an excellent job and everything is working correctly.

I filed a claim for a busted pipe with American Home Shield online and the experience was fine. With the contractor though, it was not. It was about a week before they actually got out to the property. Trying to get in contact with them was very cumbersome. I called the number and no one ever answered. I left a message and they didn't call me back. When I finally got a hold of them, when they finally called me back to set up the time, it was three days later. When the tech came to the house, he looked at the thing and provided me an estimate and he just left and didn't leave a write-up. It did not get repaired at all. So, It was a waste of $100. Out of all the workers I've put in, this is the worst. I haven't had any issues with American Home Shield’s service contractors but with this one, it wasn't a good experience. Apart from that issue, I'm generally satisfied with AHS.

It’s quicker than doing it online. When the tech came out, he took a look at it and told me that he knew exactly what was wrong and that he needed some parts. He came back next week with the parts and he did a superb job. It’s working perfectly. This ref had been serviced for the same problem for about four times before and they just kept replacing things and it didn’t do any good. This guy said knew exactly what it was, he fixes them all time and he did it. He was very polite and a pleasure to work with. He’s the best. The other techs have been okay but they just didn’t know quite sure what to do and there was hesitation. I’ve had American Home Shield for years and it has paid for itself over and over again. They’ve got a system going that works. When you got a broken appliance, it’s never a happy experience but AHS works and I’m willing to pay my monthly fee for having that service. The hot water was leaking in the master bath so I submitted a claim to AHS. The first time the plumbing company scheduled the service call was between 10:00 to 2:00. I told them I had to be at work at 2:00 and if someone was to come, I had to be at the earliest. At 11:30 no one called me so I called them. I said I had to reschedule. The next available time was last Saturday so I had to wait another week. They said between 11:00 to 2:00. I said that was fine and I was gonna be home. Then, they said that my hour changed and they were gonna be here between 9:00 to 1:00. Then they showed up. The plumber that came was really nice. He said the faucets were loose and he secured it. It’s a double sink and both faucets are very hard to open. He said they had to be replaced.

The plumbing company then called me to follow up. I said that I was ready, but she said that they sent the report to AHS but no one from AHS called. I was expecting AHS to call me, but no one has called me so far. So I called AHS yesterday and they said Nicole’s gonna call me. And I thought Nicole was the lady that was coming from the plumbing. It’s been more than two weeks now and my issue hasn’t been resolved. I don't have hot water in the master bath, which I use all the time. I have to come to the kitchen to wash my face and use hot water. Hopefully, they'll do something about it.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for a relay switch that was not working. I spoke to a representative named Joy and she was horrible. She didn’t know the difference between a heat pump and an air conditioning unit and she couldn’t answer my questions. She was rude and they were all rude in the call center where the call went through. They were yelling and screaming at one another in the background. It was not a good experience. Also, I didn’t get any response and I didn’t get an email or anything after she said she would submit the information. Then, I got a great girl that was in Georgia and she was fabulous. She said the information was never submitted. It was not the first time that it has happened to us whenever we’ve called American Home Shield.

A contractor was dispatched the next day and it was quick. He was very nice and he told my husband what he was doing. He also told him where the problem was. He replaced the wire and the relay switch that had burnt out. However, we had the fire department out because we had smoke in the house coming from the vents the next day. The contractor came out again right away and looked at the unit, but he couldn’t find anything really wrong with it. He had thought that maybe when he opened it, dust resided in there and the dust was burning off, which the fire department also said was possible and that it will alarm. Everything is fine now.

The water heater in my home was not functioning and it had been here for several years. It busted the tank, filled up with water and it had to be replaced. I called it in with American Home Shield which was a turmoil because I didn’t always get someone. I got a recording. It was frustrating. I called back and finally got somebody. My wife told them that I was sick and that we needed to get ready to go to a cancer clinic appointment and that we needed the hot water fixed well. They then called back sometime later and said that a company called Drain Go would be coming up. They couldn't come out that day though. It was gonna be a couple of days before they could come out. So, we couldn't do anything for the three days, except boil our water.

In the meantime, we kept calling and asking AHS to get somebody out here and they just told us that they had Drain Go assigned to come out. We talked to Drain Go and they said that they would get out the following Monday and this was on a Friday. Also, it was obvious to them that the water heater had blown up and was gonna have to be replaced. But by then, they would have to order the replacement water heater and parts that would be necessary to hook it up in our house, so we would have a couple more days of waiting.

Drain Go was outstanding though when they came. They were very polite, professional and very concerned. They got going on getting this taken care of as quickly as they could get the hot water heater in. After they got the brand new water heater in, everything was going fine. Two weeks later, the water heater went out again, so I called Drain Go and she said that it was closing time. When the young man who had been out earlier heard that it was me calling and he knew my being sick, he said that he was on his way to my house. They came in after closing time, made it a point to come to my home and fixed my water heater that just turned out to be an issue with the relay. He got it going but he wanted to be sure it was gonna keep going, so he ordered a new relay and came back the next morning to put it in.

Just this morning though, when my wife was getting ready first to go make our appointments, the water heater was off again. Because the tech showed me how to reset it, I was able to get it reset and I'm hoping that in the next few minutes, I'll have some hot water. We called AHS and told them that the water heater wasn’t working again and they've called Drain Go and informed them. Now, I'm waiting to hear back from them. Drain Go though was really trying very hard and the tech has been very good but there is just something wrong with the product.

My biggest complaint with AHS is it takes too long to get a hold of them and it takes too long to get someone out to address the problem. Then, you have the wait times, times that you're having to wait for parts. To me, if they're showing me a contract and my contract is supposed to be a VIP contract, where they get to me quickly and get things resolved but then it's just treated the same as anybody else, that doesn't make me feel like it's very VIP and it doesn't make me feel good knowing that I've got to wait. American Home Shield needs to do something about the promptness of their response to a customer's needs.

When my GE dryer quit working, I went to Rent-A-Center to rent a little dryer because I couldn’t pick up anything to take it somewhere else to dry. Then, my kids moved the GE dryer into the dining room and then they put the little-rented dryer where the broken one was so I have a way to dry clothes. I had a GE repair person named Israel who was so bad. He took a long time before he came out here and when he came, he had to order the parts. This was over a period of five weeks. When the parts came in, he came back and acted pissed off that he had to move the little-rented dryer to put the other one back in. He couldn’t test it unless it was plugged up and that is the only place in the house it would plug up. He was so afraid he would have to do something and I did not like it at all. I forgot all that he did to the dryer as I was so pissed by the time he left.

He then finally decided he could move the little dryer and put mine back in its spot and tested it. But the control panel at the top did not operate like it did. It says a bunch of stuff that it’s never said before. I also asked Israel to hook the steam function but I do not know if he did it. I used to have Sears come out and they were 100% better, friendly and helpful. They also gave hints that would help and make things better. If there was anybody else that could repair the GE appliances, I would use them as opposed to Israel from the GE place.

More recently, my chandelier above the dining table quit working. I checked the breakers but the problem wasn’t a breaker so, I went to American Home Shield’s website and scheduled a service call as it is how I file a claim in the recent years. They sent out Epic and the technician fixed the issue in a short period of time. It was like a switch that has two different locations. He was a very young guy, but he knew what he was doing and he was great.

I file claims right on the website and it's pretty simple to navigate. Even I can do it. One time, the garbage disposal kinda froze up and about 15 minutes after I filed the claim, I got a text message saying somebody would contact me in the next 24 hours. The next day, I got a call from Yamaz Plumbing, asking me what the problem was. I told them and they said they were gonna send a person out. Then they called me the next day and said they had somebody in the area. But I couldn't meet up with them at the same time because I was at work. They asked when we could meet up and we scheduled it for the following Tuesday.

They went ahead and came out, and oddly enough, when the guy used a little thing to turn it, all of sudden, the garbage disposal came on. He was gonna troubleshoot it more but then the thing burned up and went on fire. Then he went, "No, no problem. We'll replace it." It took him 15 minutes. He replaced the unit and that was it. I had another claim for some air conditioning and that took a little while because they had to wait on a part. They had gone through my AC system, found some problems and are gonna replace a portion of it. They're coming out within the next couple of weeks to do that. So far, the work done by the contractors sent by American Home Shield has been great.

I've owned many houses but this is the first time I've had American Home Shield and I wish I would have done it before. When I was in my younger years, I could’ve taken on something like replacing a garbage disposal. But even if I could, it would actually cost me less to have them do it because it cost me $175 and with that deductible, it was done in one service call in comparison to the pain and effort of doing it myself plus going back and forth to the store.

It ended up being the motor to my dishwasher had broken and he said that they would give me a call to let me know when the part was shipped in. Then they would come at my earliest convenience to be able to put the new part in. It took about a week to get the brand new part and it was to be expected. They came out and got it done. The gentleman talked me through what was going on and what he thought might have happened while I was standing there watching, so it was cool. As far as the repairman in the pipe’s place, I like them. It was a good experience.

I had another claim where there was something going on with my electricity and the experience wasn’t all that great. The electrician that came out gave me an appointment window from eight in the morning to 12 in the afternoon, but the guy didn’t show up until two in the afternoon. I had to call to find out if the guy was ever gonna show up to my house. They said, “Yeah. He should be done in 30 minutes," but he wasn’t done for an hour and a half. When he arrived, I told him what was going on with my house. He went out and checked my breaker box outside, and he said, “Well, this looks good.” He didn’t even bother checking anything else in my house to see what was going on. He seemed very dismissive about what the issue was and he talked to me like I was dumb.

I like everything about my overall experience with American Home Shield, nonetheless, and I have recommended them to other people. I like their coverage with the appliances and with the rest of the house. Their deductible is kinda high, but the contractors I get are local, so it is really nice. The big selling point on it is you get local contractors to come out and help because they are more familiar with something. Some areas have certain issues that big cities don’t have. With other warranty places, they keep sending people out from Houston, and I live an hour away from there.

When the tech pulled it out, they discovered that it didn’t look like it had ever been tightened on, and the stove hadn't been used that much before, so it burned the line. They went in to replace the line, although the only thing that they didn’t have with them was a new box and they said they glued it back. I'm assuming that was a good fix and so far, it's working. The technician was very professional and he explained everything to me. I would tell my friends that it would be worth the time and money to buy the warranty with American Home Shield.

The garage door motor was running but the door was not coming up. I called American Home Shield, made a claim and was able to get a relatively quick appointment. The tech arrived as he said he would. The service went smoothly and everything has worked since. I’m very satisfied with the warranty. The way American Home Shield moved it where I don’t pay the contractor and it’s all done through the credit card is more convenient and more comfortable rather than dealing with the contractor themselves. I also like the fact that there’s an option that I won’t run the card until the repair is over.

My neighbor talked me into going with American Home Shield and our first claim was horrible. After that though, they’ve all been wonderful and we’ve not had any problems at all. We had a faucet leak on the outside brick on the house and the contractor that AHS sent fixed it. This contractor was wonderful and we had used them before, so we expected to have good service from them. We also had a faucet in one bathroom that was leaking at the base and then at the other bathroom, when we would turn the shower on, it made a squealing noise. The tech said that there was a cartridge that had gone bad inside of it, so he fixed it. Also, the kitchen faucet was loose at the base, I could move it just a tiny bit, and the tech tightened that from underneath. It doesn’t do move anymore, so that was a good call. AHS has gone up on the premium substantially though, so I don’t know if I will do them again but AHS is a good deal.

UPDATED ON 04/18/2019: After misdiagnosis of plumbing problems (no water pressure in condo) by several plumbers, good quality faucet replaced with cheap junky faucet. Still no water pressure. Better plumber comes. Sees immediately that lining of water heater clogging water flow. New hot water heater is installed. I pay out of pocket for bringing it "to code". Leaks and rusts. Different company comes. Says bad install caused leak. Rust is ok.

Recently called my own plumber to check and drain water heater. He says rusting out. Should replace. AHS sends tech from original install company... after several calls and complaints by me. Tech says not bad install, but bad part from factory. He says replace. AHS denies claim. I call to dispute finding. Hold for an hour plus. Told supervisor will call me back. No call. I call. Hold... Finally talk to supervisor. Denies claim. I complain. Says will review and get back to me. So I wait. Second time complaint from me. 4th lousy experience.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: We purchased a condo that came with a policy from American Home Shield. We renewed it when it expired. Someone came to see what was causing our water pressure to be so low. He eventually decided we needed a new faucet. We had a pretty decent quality faucet that was replaced with builder grade cheapo faucet. Problem still existed. Another tech came...diagnosed clogs due to deteriorating lining of water heater. Not faucet. Replaced water heater, had to pay extra because codes had changed since condo was built. Asked for old faucet back as it was better quality than the garbage they put in. It was "thrown out". Several calls, long holds etc. etc.-faucet replaced with better quality. Noticed water dripping down hot water heater. Rust on top and sides. Called it in, techs came...said whoever installed put wrong size pipe or valve that created leak. Luckily I caught it before ceiling and floor damage incurred as it is in a remote second floor closet.

January 12th, the fridge water dispenser went on the blink. The microwave was not working. Called them in. Today is February 11th. The fridge was finally fixed on the 9th. Three visits and one scheduled visit that no one showed. Tech said microwave needs replaced. Supervisor wants to come out. A month. To not fix a microwave. The cost of the techs visiting 4 times is probably more than the cost of replacing a microwave/hood fan unit. Now they want to send a different tech. After calls to them all day, long hold times and cut off twice, time for a new home warranty company and a new microwave.

Probably a letter to the Better Business Bureau. In between the above lovely experiences, we had several repairs to our furnace and AC. Most techs wanted to sell us new systems. Several diagnosed different issues with the same equipment. No effort made to replace. One of the techs that they sent, actually said...AHS will band-aid it together forever before they replace it. Got tired of heat and AC always down for repairs, replaced at my expense. Now they want to send a different tech who will call in 24 to 48 hours to fix microwave... Hahahaha... They are probably all similar...but I will take my chance on a new company. Be careful, many are affiliated... Do your homework.

I submitted a service request to AHS for my air conditioner that is covered under by AHS warranty. $100 service call fee was deducted from my account. A service contractor came out and looked at my unit and informed me there was a leak and they would talk with AHS. I received an email from AHS to inform me that they only covered $10 per pound of refrigerant. A week later, the contractor called to set up the repair and asked if the technician had informed me of the cost of the refrigerant? I said no, but I received an email from AHS telling me they only covered $10 per pound. I inquired about the cost and she told me it was 90 to 100 dollars per pound. I asked how many pounds did my unit require? She said between 6-10 pounds as the technician indicated it was very low.

I indicated, I would like to get additional estimates for the cost of the refrigerant and could they just repair the leak in the coil that she informed me that could be soldered. She said no, because they would have to test their work. I declined their services and sought a 2nd opinion from another company not associated with AHS. The 2nd opinion came out and did a leak detection and found a leak and a restriction in the system and after charging the system, the compressor shut down. They gave me an estimate to replace the evaporator coil and compressor. They also recommended replacing the unit as the current R22 refrigerant was being phased out next year.

I contacted AHS on 2/8/2019 to discuss the findings of the 2nd opinion. They informed me that their authorized contractor indicated it could be repaired and they would not replace. I requested a different contractor come out as I did not trust the findings of the 1st AHS contractor due to poor reviews. I also indicated I did not want to be charged another $100 service call. I was informed that if the 2nd AHS contractor agrees with the 1st AHS contractor that I would be charged another $100 service fee which I refused. I was then informed by AHS that since I had someone else look at my unit and give me an estimate that was not an AHS contractor, they would not pay for any repairs or replace the evaporator coil or compressor. AHS has failed to honor my warranty.

This is not the first time they have denied coverage. Last year, they denied replacing a unit indicating the damage was caused by an animal urinating on the unit. I asked for the denial in writing and reason for the denial and never received it. I would not recommend AHS. They have no intention of honoring the warranty on large appliances as they have not honored 2 air conditioners in the last year for me.

I placed my original service call on 12/29/2018. I had 3 issues, 2 refrigerators and 1 dishwasher. The calls were pretty simple, the technician came out looked at the appliances and stated that there were really no serviceable issues, he wiped the dishwasher soap dispenser with vinegar and said it may not be opening because of hard water build up. The second was the refrigerator, he replaced the water spout and said that should fix the water drips. The last was the refrigerator and he said clean the bottom of the air flow and that should fix the issue.

After he left of course nothing changed, none of the items were repaired. We called a 2nd time and of course, I got the same song and dance, this time I insisted on some other repairs. He said he would need to call a plumber for the dishwasher as it was now a plumbing issue and for the refrigerators he needed to order parts.

On the 3rd service call after the company rescheduled twice, the supervisor came out and had no idea of what was happening with any of my repairs and said he had no parts for the service, so he basically came out for no reason. To this day I do not have any idea what is happening with the repairs and when you contact AHS they say you need to contact the service provider. I have called AHS 5 times with no resolution to my issues. American Home Shield is really quick to sign you up and debit your monthly fees but if an issue arises they are impossible to contact. I had a washing machine repair issue that was requested on 1/20/19. The issue I originally had was that when I pressed the start button, nothing worked, no lights, no noise, nothing worked. Then when the Tech Miguel came I pushed the start button, it did not work as before. He pushed all the buttons and got it to work. He said they probably don't make the part anymore anyway. Then I told him about the water sitting in the tub. It just shows up. That's when he said he would need to order the water shut off connection (or something like that). Since he got the washer to work, I specifically asked, if I can use the washer. He said yes. I told him I turned off the water when I wasn't use it to make sure the water did not fill up the tub, since I had no idea why it was doing that. It took 2 weeks for the part to arrive.

When Miguel came back to install the part, it was the wrong part. He knew it when he looked at the part. Why did he not check the part before scheduling the appt. to have it installed. He was upset with the parts people. I said, "What about the customer. I had to take time off work for the appt." When he pulled the washer away from the wall to try and install the part, that when he realized it was the wrong part. The box had previously opened as it was not sealed. It should have been checked, prior to the appt. and reschedule if necessary. Then the washer was pushed back against the wall, since the part could not be installed. He was concerned about the Dryer vent not being crushed.

In his effects to push back the washing machine her did not place the Drain hose back in the drain hole on 2/8/19. I did a load of wash on 2/9/19 and when I went to check on it, the entire laundry-room, a closet, A hallway, and the carpet into a bedroom was completely flooded. All because the tech did not replace the drain hose back in the drain hole. There is no excuse for such absent mindedness. Due to the flooding it caused the shoe boards/kick plates to pull away from the wall in laundry room, down the all, etc. I called immediately to one of the service line phone numbers. No answer, I left a voice mail, never received a callback. I called two different phone nos. leaving two separate messages. Still no reply as of 11:15 am 2/11/19.

We are dealing with water, which causes MOLD. I called the main American Home Shield line, and as of yet, no action has been noted on my Complaint account. Customer service, Joy was excellent. She tried to verify what action if any has been started. She spoke to the Tech, Miguel who of course said I was not to use the washer. Which was completely false. His first trip on 1/20/19, I asked if I could use the washer he said yes. The problem with the washer did not interfere with me doing a load of wash. The problem was Miguel did not replace the drain hose in the drain hole. The washer stands on a riser which makes it impossible for me to the drain hose when doing the wash. If I had known about his mistake, I certainly would have fixed it myself.

The repair option, forces me to buy a new expansion tank (even though it’s not bad), claims they have to redo to ventilation pipe (even though it’s PVC and ported to the outside) and that they are required to bring it up to current code... Even though after 6 phone calls to American Home Shield and the vendor, no one will answer why it is out of code. I've dealt with that company before and everyone that they have sent out happened to be polite and business-like. I'm a senior and they talked to me and told me what was what in a very easy way to understand. That company has been great to me. They came out the first time, and they had to order a part for the refrigerator. But I had called them back because I started smelling Freon. It's not the techs fault. It's just that the icebox is old.

The other thing is, the cost of the plan is getting a little bit out of my hand because I'm on a fixed income. The cost goes up every year. Also, there was one worker who came out. I initially called in for my furnace in November but the company American Home Shield out to my home didn't fix the problem. The heater would turn on then turn off seconds later and when it did stay on, it wasn't heating. So for two months, I didn't turn on the upstairs heater until it got really cold. Then I told myself I needed to call American Home Shield.

I usually file claims online but I did this over the phone because I specifically wanted to ask the customer service rep not to send the first company back to my home. Doing it online is faster because you do have to wait forever for someone to answer the phone. It would be over 50 minutes. But when you go online, there's not a section for comments. Sometimes, the consumer doesn't know what the issue is and by talking to a customer service rep, a lot of times, they would say, "Oh okay, it sounds like it's this. Is it doing this?" So I prefer to speak to someone. But if I don't have a question about what to put online, if it falls under plumbing or electrical, then I just submit the claim online myself.

For this request, I really thought American Home Shield was gonna say no and tell me that was who they were sending. But I was very adamant. I had paid $75 in November and the problem did not get fixed. So I told them to please send somebody else out there that could get a second opinion on why the heater was not working. It happened fairly quickly too, and there was not a problem at all. They understood my situation. The rep also asked me questions – which you can't do online – like whether I had one furnace or two. That makes a difference because with American Home Shield, if you only say one thing, that's all they would fix then they would have to come back. If you say it's one electrical but there were two, they wouldn't bother fixing the other one because that wasn't on the request.

When contractors come, I usually take the day off and I'm by myself. The first company sent three men to my home at the same time and I think that's a safety issue. I'm in law enforcement and I wouldn't like that for anyone. With the second company, there was one person and he even took the time to talk to me. He asked what I thought was happening. I told him and he stayed there. The other company was there for about 15 minutes. Maybe it was also because there were three people. But the guy from the second company took his time.

It was the first time that American Home Shield sent Grady's Air Conditioning Services to my home, and they were professionals. The gentleman was there for over 30 minutes. He was coming in and out of the van. I guess he was trying to find tools. He found the problem and fixed it. He also explained what the problem was. He had to replace a part and he even took the part. He wrote it down and showed me. It was a very pleasant experience, unlike the one with the company in November. The heater works perfectly fine now and I was happy that the house would be warm again. If I need that service again, I would probably not file the claim online. I would call American Home Shield and ask if they could please send the same company. A lot of times, American Home Shield would say no. I guess they want to give all their vendors an opportunity to go out on calls. But I was very pleased with the guy from Grady's.

I really think I still need to file a complaint with American Home Shield though. I'm in Houston and sometimes we don't have a very cold winter. But it was very uncomfortable for two months because I was afraid to turn on the heater. I didn't know what the problem was when the company had told me it was fixed. I didn't wanna have to start a fire.

As a matter of fact, I did send American Home Shield an email and they sent that first company back that same day. But I didn't open the door because one of the gentlemen was practically banging on my door. I could tell he was angry from the way he was knocking. So I had a very bad experience with that company. I know other coworkers who had American Home Shield and we would just frown like, "Oh yeah, they sent that company." But I've had American Home Shield for close to 15 years and I always recommend them. Sometimes, you have a good experience with them and sometimes you don't. But overall, I've had good experiences with them.

A friend recommended American Home Shield to me and I've had them for a little over a year now. I submitted a claim online for a heating issue and United Air Temp came out. They were really responsive and quick. It took five days to complete the claim and everything has been fine since then.

The microwave was not working and American Home Shield sent Eagle Head, the contractor. The reps came and checked it. Then, the next day, they fixed the problem. My microwave is okay and it has been working good since then.

Having the home warranty from American Home Shield has been marvelous because moving to a new area, I wouldn’t know what repairman to call and I didn’t know anyone to ask. I did have a bad experience with one repairman, but then American Home Shield sent a different one out, and the problem got resolved. Other than that one, everyone else that were sent out were wonderful. When I had a plug gone out in my laundry room, I logged in to American Home Shield, submitted my work order, and within the same day, Circle Electric texted me. The tech was out the very next day, and he got it done. He did some work before here and he was excellent.

My washer broke and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. That process was easy. The techs came out quick. I called on a Sunday night and they had it fixed by Thursday since they had to order the part. They were perfect. They didn't take a lot of time and just did what they had to do. After the repair, my washer has been working well. The only thing was my air conditioner broke. They told me that they were supposed to pay so much percent of it because I had to replace it since it was no good anymore, and I didn’t understand why it worked out that way. Nevertheless, I would recommend American Home Shield to others.

I had a fluorescent light that went out and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online and navigating their website was easy. The technician was fine. He was friendly and did his job in a timely manner. He had to replace the whole light instead of just the ballast because it wouldn’t fit. After the repair, the fluorescent light has been working fine. I’ve had American Home Shield for 10 years and they have always been right on it. Every once in a while, they send somebody who’s new but the service usually goes okay.
