I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone, but I was put on hold. So I started doing it online because I thought it was gonna be faster. I like the convenience of submitting claims online, but there was a piece of information that was incorrect. It was saying that my warranty had expired and I needed to renew it. I needed to talk to somebody with that because we are on auto payment and we have two houses on our property. One was showing that it was fine, while the other one was showing it wasn’t, and it was weird because they are both on the same account.

Nevertheless, the most recent claim experience that we had was good. The response time was great and the people on both ends, especially the contractor, who kept me very informed on the status of our claim. It was nice to be able to check stuff with the claim online. We were very happy with the contractor and the service. I was impressed by the contractor's demeanor. He was very open with us about everything and stayed in contact with us. He was prompt and he let us know when he was gonna be on his way. He let us know when he was around 15 minutes out. It made it a lot easier for us to plan our day around when someone was gonna be here working on stuff.

I had problems with my oven last year and this was the fourth time that a contractor had come out for it. When I submitted a claim with American Home Shield, they sent an email back but I must have deleted it by mistake. I was gonna see my email, but I spoke to a young lady from AHS and then she emailed me the information. The guy that they sent out was very professional. He checked out the oven and said that it is old and they don't make them anymore. He also said that it needed to be replaced. I just have to call them back and let them know that I accept the oven that they offer. Everything went well, so far. And I have recommended AHS to people.

I have used American Home Shield twice and both times, the problem was resolved. They have been for small items but God forbid when something big goes. The reps that I speak to on the phone when I filed claims were helpful. The contractors contacted me right away and we set up an appointment. They pretty much work with me on my time. They put cloths over their shoes and were very respectful. Most recently, we had a ceiling fan that the contractor fixed and then, it just quit working. Still, it wasn’t his fault that another piece had gone out. We also had a light circuit that wasn’t working right which he fixed too. Overall, I’m happy with American Home Shield. When they say something, they do it so I put a lot of store in that.

There was a problem with my refrigerator freezer and filing a claim for it over the phone with American Home Shield was a good experience. It took about a week for the contractor to come out but he was really good. I liked the way he checked out the appliance and the way he explained it to me. The refrigerator is all fixed now.

My air conditioning has no power in it. I'm in a third floor condo in Florida and it has been very warm so we had to have the air conditioning running. I'm getting ready to sell my condo and air conditioning is very important. I have called American Home Shield a few times about different things and their reps have always been extremely nice and very efficient.

Their contractor, Comfort Pro, Inc., came out. There were two gentlemen and they were very respectful. The rain was pouring severely outside, and they were very careful about having wet clothes, which would have been fine because I have tiled floors. They couldn’t go outside to check the outer portion of it so they were checking in the inside and asked me if I had done anything with the thermostat. I said that I've been here for seven years and I've never taken it off. I was afraid to. I never even gave it a second thought if there were batteries in there, but there were. He popped the thermostat off and there were two dead batteries in it. I gave him two new ones and it worked.

The warranty with American Home Shield came with a year with the purchase of the home but we've already renewed because the $75 copay could be the difference even if you have to replace your appliance. That is a lot of money. Then even if something can be fixed, you usually are not gonna get a repair for $75, especially on an appliance. It is like health insurance, you may not need it, but when you do, you are sure glad you have it. I usually file my claims online. I have an account so all I do is log on and put what the issue is. I usually get an email back within 24 hours. They give me the name of who’s gonna come out and say that they’re gonna call within 24 hours. Then the company calls me and I schedule an appointment with them then they come directly. The process is pretty streamlined. I haven't had an issue and I get somebody over in a timely manner.

When I called on American Home Shield for my dishwasher, they sent Sears. But it turned out that it was a water issue with the pressure coming from the water pipe from underneath the sink. So it actually wasn't the dishwasher. Still, the gentleman was able to change a filter in the dishwasher to check and see if that is what it was. But after he did, he ran the dishwasher with the hose and the water connection off, and it was very apparent there wasn't enough water coming through. So because it was more of a plumbing issue, he wasn't able to fix it. But my husband was able to replace the pipe that went from the main line into the dishwasher.

Then recently, the baking igniter in my oven failed. American Home Shield sent out a gentleman from HCH and he was great. When he came but didn’t have any parts, I thought we would have to wait until they ordered the part. But it worked out fine. He got on the phone, called some place, found the part and then went to pick it up. It was excellent. Then he came back and fixed the issue. It was done before 12:30 that day. That tells me that American Home Shield hires people who are from the area. They are local and they know where to find their parts. Then as far as the $75 copay, it can't be beaten either because I don’t know how to fix an oven.

American Home Shield has been okay as far as claims submission. I usually do it over the phone. The reps are very thorough, ask questions and listen to what I have to say. Sometimes, they go right down all the details. There was particular claim that was a mess, but it got handled. They followed through with it and got everything taken care of. With this last claim when the plumber came out, he gave reassurance of what was going on. But there were things on the notes that were not given to him, so I reiterated everything. Other than that, the guy was fantastic. It was kind of an emergency where we had water that would not stop running. What I appreciated was that the AHS representative said, “I will do what I can to get somebody there right away. I wish I can promise that, but I can’t.” I understand that because it’s not like he knows their schedule. But within an hour and a half, somebody was out here.

I've been with AHS for a year now and I plan on renewing. But I’m trying to do my research because there was a company that had sent me a letter in regards to the things covered. The deductible was slightly less by $10 but it was about $150 difference if I paid it upfront. I wish that AHS would be really thorough on what’s needed because there was one incident where it got confused. So you'll have to really do research on the availability and what’s covered. Still, AHS was great with the last claim. They didn’t hesitate one bit, and the service was very efficient.

Aaron, the first guy from Plumbers Incorporated, came out and fixed the master shower. Then, there was a call that he had parts for the toilet, which was okay and he fixed that as well. He was a pleasant person, nice and he got to the issue. However, I had a few more items that needed to be fixed. I couldn’t turn the left hot water handle on one of the sinks in the master bathroom and that needed to be done as well as the kitchen spray. There was also the bathtub button for the Jacuzzi that was sticking and needed to be straightened out. The whole bathroom had a slow drain flow as well. I asked Aaron if he was going to look at the other items that were on the list. He said he was sorry that he could only work with what was on his phone. I said I didn’t understand because I gave a list to AHS and he was very apologetic but he could not go any further.

I called AHS and asked them if they sent the entire list that I gave them over to the plumbing company. They said they did and I told them that my complaint was why they didn’t give the entire list to the guy technician. They did not have an answer for that. I waited for another week and I asked if anybody was coming out. Plumbers Inc. wanted to give me the number to American Home Shield, but I told them I had it. I called AHS since I wanted to know why am I not getting a call for the rest of the items that's on the list. I got a call after the complaint and I was told that somebody was gonna be out there to see what was going on. The appointment was made and I waited.

Jake came out and he was very kind and I gave him a walkthrough of what was going on. The downstairs toilet was running for two or three days and I did not know that I simply have to flush the toilet. Then, he went to the master bathroom and he said there was corrosion on the hot water handle. He took it a few pieces apart and they still lay where he put them. It's been almost a week or so and I haven't gotten a call either if they were gonna get the part. I also pointed out the bathtub and the kitchen spray but AHS said that it was a cosmetic issue. However, it didn't show when I called and they took the order. Now, all of a sudden, it's an issue to replace the tub or sink.

I made mention to the technicians Jake and Aaron that if they were going to replace the sink, I didn't want an inferior part come into my home. When they were building the house, I selected everything the model had and that was a part of it. After Jake and Aaron took pictures, I haven't heard anything since Jake left. I was looking at my bathroom sink this morning and was thinking when they would come out and fix this stuff. My 10-year-old niece said the bathroom hall was an easy fix because a hair thing was stuck down there. He pulled it out and that was okay but I’m still waiting on the kitchen sink, the bathroom faucet, and the bathtub.

I had AHS previously at that same house and no changes have been made. It's ridiculous if some clerk didn't put my list in the guy's phone but only two items that he could look at. Aaron did what he could do and I don't blame him but I blame AHS. I have an issue with the technician not getting the entire list. If it was one item or the maximum they would take for a plumbing issue, they gotta give me the list. I have recommended AHS even to my niece and she has them. However, I was regretting going back to them. When I used to call, a technician would come out, do whatever, pay or hand the money and it’s good to go. This time, I don't understand it.

We had a problem with the furnace and when A&A Precision Heating & Cooling came out, the guy put up a new thermostat. He had also put in new burners at one time because the old ones were rusted out. Then the last time I contacted American Home Shield, I thought the furnace wasn't working for some reason. The thermostat was set on 73 but it dropped down to 72 and I thought it was not working. But then the room temperature dropped down to 72 and then the furnace kicked on. It started working. So everything was fine. All in all, American Home Shield is doing okay.

We needed our heater since we had snow here in Tucson, and so I turned it on and it ran, then it stopped working. I called American Home Shield to set up an appointment but the company they got couldn't come until about three days. The heater then came back on so I just cancelled it. But the heater went back off again so I redid the claim. This time, it went to Ambient Air who then came and looked at it. The guy who did the initial problem-shooting was really nice and friendly. He figured out that it was a sensor issue and it wasn’t detecting the heat. They had to replace a couple of little parts, and now it’s fixed. I’m going to renew with American Home Shield before my year is over.

My furnace first went out on Martin Luther King weekend and I had issues prior to that. The first guy who came out in October weatherized the furnace. I told him the furnace was leaking and asked if he could fix whatever that crack was. He said okay and that was an additional $75 because that was a totally separate policy. I didn’t understand that but I just went on to pay. That was 150 for that visit. The first guy told me my furnace was good and that I was gonna have it for another five years.

But in January, I had to have somebody come back out. The second technician came twice in one day then had to come back another day. For the first day he came, he got the furnace back running but said he couldn’t find anything wrong. But about an hour after he left, the furnace went out again. When he came back, he said it was a crack. I asked why he didn’t see the issue when he was here earlier. He told me my furnace was old and was probably gonna need repair. On the 21st I called back as the heat was out again. The same gentleman came back out. He said that the furnace was cracked to where it was leaking carbon monoxide in the house. The furnace was unrepairable and that was when he reported to AHS that my furnace needed to be replaced. I was in my house without heat for a week.

I called in a few times trying to get information but AHS kept telling me that I had to wait until I received a call because they had no information, so I waited. Someone finally called me to let me know. They left me a voicemail because I was away from my desk then. The furnace needed to be replaced and they were ordering it. But I had to pay for a modification. They listed everything that I was paying for and gave me the total on the voicemail. I called to see when my appointment would be and they let me know. The contracted company called and let me know when they were coming. They replaced my furnace and everything was fine.

I am thankful for this home warranty as I was able to get a new furnace. It saved so much money. I just moved into this house in October and there are more stuff that I need done. My Realtor pushed for me to have American Home Shield and I’m so glad she did. The policy is a phenomenal thing that AHS offers for people with homes. I’ve told people about the company too so that they can give AHS a policy and set them up with a home warranty because it is definitely something one needs to have. I’m very happy with the service. The website and setting the appointment is easy. The people that come are friendly, professional and timely. They do a good job. I definitely am gonna extend it another year when my contract is up. The only thing is customer service. AHS needs to have better customer service skills with some of the employees.

Calling was frustrating because there was a language barrier with a lot of their employees. They don’t understand when you’re trying to explain or ask questions and you kinda get the runaround. That was frustrating. But when I spoke to a young lady from a totally different department, she was able to explain all the steps like what I needed to do and how the process works. The initial representative I had couldn’t explain anything to me. There was another department and they couldn’t give me any reason. I asked why I couldn't be credited since I was constantly paying for the same issue. They just said that they would send someone back out and that I won’t be charged. But I already paid almost $300 for the same furnace. But I just left that alone.

My dryer wasn’t drying, although it was turning on. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online which was easy and quicker than doing it by phone. The technician that came out replaced the drying unit itself and made a better connection in the back. There was a short at the back of the dryer and he fixed that also. He was very professional and very knowledgeable. Everything has been good so far since the repair. However, I’ve had some issues before where I gave AHS the model number and even told them exactly what was wrong with it, but I still had to go through an extra step.

They sent the technician out, but some of the information AHS told me didn’t get referred to the tech. They didn’t know anything about the unit and the unit number, so the techs were coming out blind. Some of the technicians have been doing it long enough that they know exactly what is wrong with it. That way, I don’t have to sit there and wait another whole week to get the unit fixed. If the information gets to them, the whole process would go a lot faster.

Also, the repair companies don’t make any money off the repairs that AHS has them to come out. What they make their money on is bringing everything up to code. I’ve had the issue before where the contractor would replace one thing but it’s gonna cost me $1,500 to bring the unit up to code. However, everything was fine and all I needed them to do was fix it. They say they can't legally go out and fix that unit unless we bring everything up to code. That is where they make their bread and butter. Still, I like that AHS offers to give me the cash value to fix the unit and get it fixed myself, and that is awesome. I’ve talked to other people that absolutely hate American Home Shield, but I’ve never had any problems with AHS.

The filter on my swimming pool had started leaking and there was a crack on the filter so I called American Home Shield over the phone. I was on hold for a little while. It said they were experiencing a high volume of calls but once I got a hold of them, it was pretty easy. Backyard Pools came on the same day. It was pretty prompt. They assessed the situation and indicated that the size of the top part of my filter was no longer made so they ordered the larger version. Then they said that they wanted me to clean the remaining filters, that American Home Shield doesn’t pay them to do maintenance so I did that.

They also asked if I needed to buy powder which is part of the filtration system that goes into the pool filter, and that if they would pick up the filters if I wanted to pay for that in cash. American Home Shield would not cover that so I paid them $10 in cash to pick up a bag of powder and they brought it back and left the remaining powder with me that they didn’t use, and replaced the manifold, filters, and the top part of the filter. Before they left, they turned the filter on and they had it running. I checked it then and I didn’t see any leaks. It seemed like it was functioning fine. Everything has been good since the repairs. I haven’t had a chance to really monitor it. The filter comes on at night, it’s on a timer.

I had a different home protection company before called Old Republic, who a number of times I called, they almost seemed like the people that were called out were trying to find ways to show that the company would not cover issues, and a number of times, they didn’t. They always had some excuse to what part they didn’t cover and what part was covered, and my claim fitted somehow outside of their coverage. With American Home Shield, however, I called and told them what I thought was going on and they said that the would send someone out to check it. The person came in, went right to work, said what they would replace. There was no hassle, no argument. It felt much less stressful than what I experienced before with the other home protection company.

Last year, I went the whole summer without AC. I have two units and both of them were down. Extreme Heating & Air put the heating system years ago and I told AHS to send them out again. But AHS sent another contractor, telling me that I had to go with that contractor first. The contractor came out, charged me Freon on two different occasions, told me what was wrong with my unit, and kept charging me.

Then Southern Comfort came out. They said that I needed a new upstairs unit and a compressor for my downstairs unit. All this time it was going on, I was here burning up with heat. With $100 dollar light bills, I could keep my blowers on and it ended up running all the time. I’ve gone through summertime to keep cool with a portable AC unit but then I had a $900 electric bill. I finally got the upstairs unit installed in August. For the downstairs unit, they sent my compressor to Texas which delayed the unit from getting fixed. When they finally fixed it, it was making a crazy noise because it was old.

This year, the heater of the downstairs unit that they’ve replaced is working, but it was blowing cold air. I called American Home Shield and the people they’re gonna send out here to look at my AC unit was Extreme Heating & Air so I immediately called AHS after I saw it and cancelled the service call. They sent out Southern Comfort, but they still charged me the $75 service fee when I thought they cancelled it. Southern Comfort told me that my AC unit possibly had a power surge, and AHS said they won’t pay for that.

But my house hadn’t had a power surge. I even called two separate people out here to look at my unit and paid out-of-pocket. Each one of them could not say that it was a power surge. AHS wanted to send Southern Comfort back out to my house. I was already frustrated with AHS on how last year went and I did not wanna go a whole winter without heat. The third company that came out was Hammond Heating & Air Services and also Reliable. I asked Reliable to come out so I could get a brand new heating system and they gave me one. But they said that I haven’t had a power surge and I don’t have any burnt wires. So, I just paid out-of-pocket last week to get a $7,000 unit put in for my dual-fuel system that failed.

I’m not feeling good about AHS. I’ve had a broken toilet upstairs since the beginning of February that’s not resolved yet. The second to the last person that came out was BestWay Mechanical and I told AHS that I don’t like them. The guy worked on my master bedroom toilet and fixed that one. The upstairs toilet was still running.

BestWay sent another tech to take care of that one. The tech was belligerent and ugly rude. I told AHS about it and called them three different times. The tech tried to put something on my sprayer in the kitchen to find out that AHS didn’t cover it. I said that he should not put a $100,000 fixture on a million-dollar home. AHS said that I was wrong. I told them that he was trying to put something universal from probably Walmart that wouldn’t work in my house that was not acceptable. The tech was upset. He went upstairs and made my toilet worse than it was before he even came. I had to turn my water off upstairs because it was running.

Now, the only thing was the flap because the water in the tank on the back of the toilet wouldn’t fill up. AHS sent a person last night. The man said he was gonna fix that. I had to go pick up my son at 6:00 and left him here with my daughter. When I went back to the house, he came downstairs and told me he took my whole toilet off and said about something stuck down in my drain. Water was just running and that did not constitute to my toilet being destroyed. He did something that teared it up. Now, the man said my toilet won’t flush. I haven't gone upstairs myself to see because I'm tired of dealing with this.

I called American Home Shield and they got people coming to houses. They get low-ratings online for these companies they choose and all they're trying to do is take more money out of pocket. I even found that out with them this morning. The guy told me that they didn’t take my money and I told him yes. He looked at my records and said that it was called in on the 28th. I asked what the status was and he said that it would take 7 to 10 business days to get the money back in my account. But I told him that they didn’t do that as I told them to do it. I've had electric and plumbing claims with American Home Shield, and both experiences have been good. I went online, submitted the claim, and shortly after, they sent me a text and email telling me who would be contacting me to set up an appointment. The contractor contacted me within a few hours and set everything up. Both the contractors were really good. They were very, very friendly, professional, and very quick.

The plumbing claim was for the toilet. The pressure was dropping in the tank and the plumber came and took care of everything. But I’m still waiting on the information from the electrician for the electric claim. He had sent a request to change a light fixture, and I'm waiting for someone to call me back on that to determine how that's gonna work out. The light in my daughter’s room still have a malfunction, so she’s been using the spare bedroom. But overall, American Home Shield has been really good and easy to work with.

I saw American Home Shield’s advertisement when I was watching TV one night. I thought it would be a good idea so I decided to give it a try that night too. I have had them for a couple of months and I just added my second home with them. I have also recommended it to four other people. The first time I submitted a claim to American Home Shield was easy. It was for my dishwasher. However, the first technician did not feel like he wanted it. He tried to diagnose over the phone and when it didn’t work, he cancelled my order and I was charged another $100. American Home Shield immediately set up another contractor, Ellis Appliance, and the guy was absolutely excellent. It took him about a week as he had to order the part. It was very convenient and he worked with my schedule.

We had a broken garbage disposal and the problem was that it was draining into the tub. It was after hours and I called American Home Shield. I couldn’t explain the entire problem because the phone answering system won’t let me mention more than one problem. So, they called back in the morning and set up the appointment right away. AHS sent out TMD Plumbing and the contractor was very good. He had been to our house before, so he was familiar with us and the situation we had. He was extremely friendly and had the repairs done very quickly. There's a follow-up issue on one of the issues that I'm gonna talk to them about, and I’d like them to come back and take a look at fixing it. I called them directly because it’s still part of the same thing.

I tell people about American Home Shield all the time. I'm always trying to get people to buy it. Whenever we have a problem, we just normally log on to American Home Shield's website to submit our claim. Not knowing what's wrong, we would pay, and then their contractor would come out and fix it. And all of their contractors that we've used have been good. The Dill guys came out for my gas stove when one of the burners would not ignite, which turned out that there was a broken seal. And so, the gas was leaking out on one side and not going around and then igniting. It took them a long time to get the part, but we had eight burners, so it was no big deal. They were to be back out in a week, and then a week turned into three. I don't think it was their fault, though. I think they just couldn't get the part from the manufacturer.

American Home Shield responded fairly quickly after I submitted a claim online. I did it at night and we got a call in the morning. They didn't promise that the contractor would come the next day, but there was a cancellation, so I caught an open spot. The contractor fixed the problem, he explained, and he answered a ton of my questions which were not even related to this issue. It was about the heaters and plumbing because there is nobody to ask about that around. He was really nice and very knowledgeable.

We had an electric issue, called American Home Shield, contractor sent out and repaired. Electric repair was unsatisfactory, called AHS back and we had to reach back out to the contractor who then refused to return to our property because he lived too far away. Not only is the electric system not working properly; the contractor did extensive damage to the stonework on our house during the install of a new breaker box leaving holes around the box and told us we needed to fill them in with insulating foam. This has reduced the curb appeal of the home, and we are currently in the process of having home appraised and worried about the depreciation because of this fix.

Because AHS did not have another electric contractor in their network, we were told that any repairs had to be pre-authorized by them, the money paid out of our pocket and then AHS would reimburse. The whole purpose of having home warranty insurance is to avoid paying a high out of pocket amount. Also, why does AHS make a point of only using licensed/bonded repairmen if they won't guarantee their work. Additionally, the customer service hold time can easily exceed an hour at a time.

They assigned One Stop Plumbing and Rooters.

AHS just called me to tell me the plumbers diagnosis was it was not wear and tear. They basically said it was intentional. I paid $75 service fee that is lost now. They said if I didn't agree with the diagnosis, I could pay another $75 service fee with another vendor. I said that is ridiculous and was furious. This is terrible. I also told them that they chose One Stop Plumbing who has terrible reviews on Yelp! The contractor, Climate King, was courteous from the outset, making the arrangements for the service person who would come out. Then, the time was set up and the technician came right away. He was very good, and he was very professional in his behavior. He put his little slippers over his shoes. He was courteous and efficient too. There were two problems and they were taken care of. The unit is working fine now.

I would love to not be dealing with the computer when filing a claim. I don’t like that I’m not calling a human being. A human being can say, “I’m sorry. That’s not a part of your contract.” I called about my garage door, which I thought was covered. It was the garage door company who told me that it was not covered. I had to have them come anyway but that was different. There was also one other time I thought I was covered and I wasn’t. So, understanding my policy is perhaps a problem because there are so many things about your house that you don’t know. My daughter strongly recommended I not have American Home Shield but I have had two experiences with them, and they've been both wonderful. I’m glad AHS is there and that I have them.

I just do it online and that seems to be faster.

Recently, the refrigerator's ice maker wasn't dispensing ice and the freezer drain line was clogged so there was ice at the bottom. I couldn't keep the door shut. While the technician sent out from All Brands Appliance Repair Service was good, he didn't anticipate a clog in the drain itself which is a common problem. I was told to unplug the refrigerator, let it thaw, and drain out, and turn it back on. I did that but it’s clogged again. The other one was another loose issue where I’d tighten it up and tighten it up again, but it didn’t stay tight. I called American Home Shield and the representatives were helpful. The technicians were timely and I knew ahead of time about when they were gonna be here. They had those things to cover their shoes too, so they were respectful.

They took things apart and replaced something in one, fixed something in the other, and cleaned off something in the third one. They were professional and got their work done efficiently, so I appreciated it. However, I realized that they tend to not replace the things that are kinda ratty. They just fix them or repair them. I wish there was a way to step it up a little -- to replace something rather than just give a band-aid solution. Nevertheless, everything has been working well since the repair.

The first time the contractor came out, he told us that we needed a new panel board and a new fan. When he came back out, however, it wasn't the fan. It was the fan motor. So, he came back out again and he put on the new fan motor. The following week, he came back with the fan. Five minutes after he left, the fan fell off. He didn’t come back for three days and then the unit was still not working right. He had to come back out again. The defrost timer was wrong. There was just something every time.

Finally, I requested for another company. American Home Shield was great when I called them. I was calling the contractor every time there was a problem and they told me that I should have called them instead and that they would have taken care of it immediately. Another company then came out and they told me that the problem was that the first company got the wrong fan motor size and it was not defrosting things correctly. That was the reason the unit kept freezing up and not working. They then did the repair. They also took over the servicing agreement.

That was something that was very good in a sense that if I had waited until the capacitor completely fails, then I wouldn’t have had any conditioner. He did the repair while he was there which was even better. This is the first policy that I’ve had that had central air conditioning so when he came out to check it, I was close by and asked him questions and he gave me the answers. He was very professional. But you can’t open up an oven door gently. With the washing machine, it was no good for any repair and I replaced it with another one, and just cashed the check that I got today.

The techs who came over happened to have been the same two teams from Star. They knew what they were doing. The first time, they put plugs into the washing machine but it just continued to bang so much. The techs advised me not to use it. They explained the banging and the wear and tear nicks the rubber and it could have a leak. I was so grateful for that advice because I probably would have continued using it. For the oven door, it has been working fine after the repair. But I really couldn’t use the oven door because it only had one tiny screw holding both sides and the techs replaced it with a larger screw. But the oven itself and the heating elements work just fine.

I usually submit a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. For my first experience doing it, the woman who I spoke to guided me with what I needed to do and I did it. I've been with American Home Shield for over 10 years. They have been the ones giving me a hard time instead of their contractors. I had a problem with my garbage disposal recently and their contractor did well. Most of the time, customer service at AHS has been okay. However, I stay on the phone for hours before someone answers my call. I also find that they deal with too many canned questions and responses and it impacts the user or the person that’s paying the money.

As clients of American Home Shield, we should have a choice of contractors we want to choose instead of dealing with this monopoly. With it, we get what AHS gives us and nothing else. I find that to be ridiculous. Most people won't even get this type of warranty. Instead, they would take the money paid in a month and put it in the bank and save it for emergencies, because having the warranty is too much of a hassle.

If I have a contractor and I didn't like the work they did, I would just have to deal with it. AHS would end me to the outrageous internal process of keeping that contractor and putting in my complaint. It has to meet certain criteria that even the contractors deal with a hard time. Most of their contractors are small businesses that need this type of work.

The pump wasn't working for close to a week.

When I called Sun Bright through the number on the ticket of the repair, they couldn't be more rude. So I called American Home Shield and requested not to have Sun Bright work on anything related to my house. I also asked them to send somebody else and they were very responsive. They sent Aaron Pools and their guy was excellent. The pool pump is now working how it should be working. He also called me out and showed me what had happened. This motor was all melted and fused inside. I guess it got so hot that it fused all of the parts inside of the motor together. In hindsight, Sun Bright could have actually caused issues like a fire because all the plants around the area were dry because of the winter. They're a huge hazard. American Home Shield was really good about not sending them back. But they shouldn't be doing business with that contractor, period.

It also looks like American Home Shield's policy is to replace motors with refurbished ones. But that would actually cost more because then those refurbished things would end up breaking again and they would have to send somebody else back out. So I think it's crazy that they have that policy in an area like Arizona, where the heat is the way it is, and those things are normally outside, exposed to the weather. But overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been good. They've been responsive.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good. There have been times where it took a few days to get someone out to the house to inspect the problem and that's the only problem I've had. Recently my dryer was making a loud noise. I called in to submit a claim to AHS. Then they scheduled someone to call me and make an appointment to come out and look at it. It took four days for Premier Appliance Services to get out to our home. Still, he was very honest and he took care of the problem. So far, it's been working fine.

There was one time when I called about the furnace. They sent someone out, but they were really outrageous. They wanted to overcharge and I would have to pay a lot of money out of pocket. I wasn't happy about that. I then hired someone else and when I showed them all the list of the things that the other person claimed needed to be done, he said he didn't even know what the other tech was talking about.

I also had an issue when I had a leak in my roof and I explained that to the lady and I wasn't sure if it was covered. So, she sent a plumber and I told her that my problem was not a plumbing issue but with my roof. Then they told me that the roof wasn't covered. So why did they send a plumber then? They should have told me it wasn't covered. I refused to pay for my deductible because I didn't need a plumber. Another claim that I've had was for my bathroom where my faucets went bad. Then AHS sent someone out and he wanted to overcharge as well. So I requested the money from AHS and hired someone else who took care of the problem without the overcharge. I also had another claim for my garage door. That was taken care of without a problem either.

Then, a really nice gentleman came. He was super and did a great job. The burners couldn’t be fixed and he got me some new ones. He took his time. Submitting the claim for my furnace was a very positive experience. The tech who came from Koning Mechanical Services was really excellent. We had called on President's weekend and we thought we would have to wait until Monday. But he called us back on Sunday and even came out that day to diagnose what the problem was. I was very impressed. The amazing thing with him too is that although he needed to get a part, he was able to bypass it so that we could have heating until he got it. It was freezing cold but we were without heat for a very short period of time because he was able to do that for us.

We've been with American Home Shield for at least 10 years now and generally, we've been satisfied. I even recommend them all the time. Once in a while, I get a technician who is not so good. But now that I've been using American Home Shield long enough, I've accumulated the names of the people who do a better job. Once I’ve found people that I'm comfortable with, things have been really good. For example, my washing machine broke yesterday but I know that I like Richard Appliance so I was able to communicate with them and they're gonna come out to look at it tomorrow.

I usually submit claims by phone, which is convenient. Sometimes, I'd like to speak to a representative especially if I'd like to request a certain technician that I've used before and who knows my appliance. It doesn’t work if you do it online. They automatically send you to whoever is available. That's actually what happened when I put in a claim yesterday for my washer. I had to call in and redo it. I was told that if I need to request someone, I would have to speak to an agent.

I've called about appliances on three separate occasions and Amtec has been the only company that came out and the same exact techs has all been fine. They've always had to order parts but they follow up and once they got it, they came out to fix the issue. It took about a week to order the part and for someone to get here. It has been a great service from what I've seen. They’ve done great with handling things that have occurred with anything I've had an issue with. I had a plumbing problem and I initially filed a claim with American Home Shield online, but then I never got a call from them. So I called them, and then they scheduled somebody to come out. The online process was easy, but I don't know if the claim never got through to the right person. After a day of them not contacting me, I had to reach back out again. The interaction with the AHS rep was fine, although it was a little confusing because I had already set up something online. It took a while because she was trying to figure out that if I was calling, then why did I put a claim online? But once we got past that, it was good.

The contractor who came out was good. It was the fifth time that I had somebody come out for the same problem, and everybody said the same thing - that something is going on in the ground and it needs to be investigated. I thought it needed a new trap. The response I got from AHS was that the problem was now fixed. However, it would be fixed for six months, but it would come back again. It was a temporary fix and AHS didn't do extra investigating of what the actual problem was.

If it's the same problem that’s occurring multiple times in a year or multiple times in a couple of years, AHS needs to do a bit more and that they should listen to the contractors because it almost seemed like the contractors only wanna do the bare minimum. But they're telling me that there's more that needs to be done. Out of the six times that I had to call AHS for the same issue, I had to pay the fee five times. And then, the most recent claim, they said that the place where I am no longer have the fee. So, they didn’t charge me at that point. But before, AHS gave me a 30 or 45-day warranty. So, if the problem does come back at 30 or 45 days, they wouldn’t charge me. But now, they're saying that there's no fee associated with it.

We had a microwave convection oven that was bad, and the guy from Morgan Henry Company came out. He attempted to fix it but could not because the parts cost more. So he totaled it out then went back to American Home Shield. They got back with me on the phone to tell me to go on a website and they provided me with a cost of a new microwave. We purchased that and had it delivered. Unfortunately, the company it was purchased through, which was GE, sent their own people out here to put it up. They made a mistake and American Home Shield then had to send someone else out here to redo the work. But in that sense, American Home Shield did a wonderful job.

I also didn't get charged anything that I'm aware of. The representative said I wouldn't be charged anything because they bought the product that was supposed to be delivered and then once it was delivered, their understanding was that GE would call back and then they would send someone out here to install it. But in the future, I will make sure that if anything goes out, the delivery people would just deliver it and not install it.

In terms of filing claims, I always prefer the human contact because there is no loss in communication. But for ease of use, American Home Shield's website was great. I initially did this claim online and American Home Shield took the payments. As far as the technicians American Home Shield has sent, one was great but the second technician was not so great. They were dealing with the water leak and he talked more about his personal business than what I had going on. It was totally inappropriate. The experience depends on the vendor that's sent out. But I have the choice to say I don't want a certain guy here and to ask American Home Shield to send someone else out. Then we would've dealt with that issue.

The next day, another guy, Bradley, came out and he was good. He put in the effort to get the solution rather than just immediately go to a more expensive alternative. The springs on my washer that keep the drum from flailing around broke. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and it was difficult to get the process started due to the communication issues with the person that was outsourced. The English of the rep, who I talked to when I called AHS' 800 number, wasn't good and didn't have a good understanding of the words I was using.

Still, the guy who came out was great. I had great communication with him and he kept me updated on when he would be out. He didn't waste any time when he was here. He also came out for the icemaker. The icemaker was leaking in the refrigerator and got the parts ordered for that quickly. Since the repair of the washer and icemaker, they've been working great. However, I'm having an issue with AHS right now. AHS can't get the contractor who came out to call them back. At the same time, AHS can't dispatch a new tech until that contractor calls them back. I'm stuck in a state where I can't get something fixed.

He also stated I need to pay a second services fee payment of $75.00 for this service. I have already paid 75$ for one electrician to come out three days ago to check my ceiling fan. The 1st services provider failed to open the base/motor of the fan and repair the broken part. The second services provider open the inside of the fan and repaired the fan. I am now receiving an email stating I need to pay an additional $75 because the first electrician failed to open the base of the fan and repaired. Why should I pay a second fee if the technicians don't do their job properly and they are not qualified?

A second concern with American Home Shield, the staff stated they are not paying for my AC damper and I must pay $550. The staff stated I am under an old contract that no longer exists in their program. I spoke to American Home Shield staff to closed out my account and I wanted to speak with a supervisor. He stated no supervisor was available. They will call me within 24 hours.

I also sent an email to American Home Shield from my account to speak with a supervisor and to close my account. I received a message stated someone will call me within 24 hours regarding canceling my account, as of today, I keep receiving an email bill requesting a payment of $75 for a second visit which I should not pay because the 1st technician didn't repair the fan. He didn't open the base as the 2nd technician did. I just paid them $225 within a month for three services calls. Heating they did not repair. Still not working. Stating it is not cover under their old plan and the fan as well they stated they will not replace. I have already cancel my plan after being a member since 2009.

American Home Shield has been very helpful in recommending services and contractors that we needed. When I called them the first time to figure out exactly how to get to the website and log in, they helped me with no issues at all. They have a very user-friendly website, where submitting claims is very straightforward. I didn't have to work too hard for whatever I was looking for. It was easy to find everything I needed. They are usually able to offer somebody to come out within two days, but the longest they took was a week, just because my schedule didn’t allow it at the time.

Dealing with AHS' contractors has also been very easy, super-fast and professional. JET Mechanical Contractors came out for a leak behind the shower head. There was a seal that was worn out, leaking down and has damaged the roof. The guy we had for that knew what I had put in for the report when he came out but he also asked exactly what the issue was and asked me to show him. Then, he told me what he thought it was, looked at it, told me what he was gonna do to fix it and then fixed it. He also told me to watch out for it in the future and to call back if it leaks again. We weren't able to shower for a week but since it has been repaired, we have been able to use the shower. Having the warranty is extremely valuable for these small fixes that would normally cost a couple of hundred dollars in one simple payment, so it's definitely worth it, especially on a new house if you don't know exactly what issues might arise.

The valve coming in from the main water connection in the garage was replaced and it took around three days to get the repair done. The contractor was professional and I had no issues. It was my first experience with American Home Shield and it went well.

My air conditioner wouldn't go on and filing the claim with AHS was fine. They got somebody out within two days to take a look at it. He said that some part was going out on it. When they tried to order the part, it turned out that there was only one manufacturer for the part and they were back in Florida where they were having bad weather so a lot of airports were closed down. It took over 12 days to get the part back over here and during that time, we were sitting in the cold without any heat.

AHS wanted to ship the part through the US postal service and nobody had the brains to use a different method to get it to the people who were freezing. It was hard to believe that AHS doesn't have somebody else that warehouses some of these parts on the West Coast in case of that situation. Other than that, Empire, the final vendor that put the part in, was excellent. Their technician, Jack, was a really good guy. He analyzed the problem correctly and got the right part. Then on the day that the part finally came, he waited at the warehouse an hour and a half away from here. He picked it up and drove it over. I have nothing but kudos and accolades for Empire. If not for their professionalism and their service, this claim would've been a total wreck. Jack saved it for us. Everything is working great now and we're happy.

When my dishwasher quit working, there were three different repairs made on it. Two by the first company and they could never correct the problem. The last company, a gal from Sears called in and told American Home Shield what was going on. AHS calculated how much they had put into it and decided that they would let me go ahead and get a new dishwasher, which I did. The replacement was done within seven days. Cribbs & Son Plumbing Company came over, put the dishwasher in, and took the old one away. Everything was fine. The new dishwasher is very nice and it’s everything that I had before. I like the improvement on the cutlery basket that fits on the side as opposed to in the middle. It lets me put more plates in there. In this case, everything was topnotch. I’ve had a couple of times where American Home Shield fell short of their commitment, but they always treated me right for the most part.

It’s such a huge increase, but it’s fine with me. Also, I’ve had to call them twice but they wouldn’t work on my icemaker and mixer. I called American Home Shield to file a claim as I had 3 leaky valves. Once I've gone through the automation for all the identification process, they gave me different options. One option they do not give is to automatically speak to a representative and that should be an option so I don't have to sit there and go through a bunch of rigmarole before I can actually talk to a representative.

Nonetheless, Rapps Heating and Air Conditioning was sent out and the gentleman was of great assistance. He was very professional, nice, and polite. He fixed the leaks in the bathroom and the leaking hot water heater which was the main one. After he left, another leak popped up on the hot water heater. I called him up and he told me what to do right away to fix it. It was a simple two-second fix. The gentleman was very good and is one of the best repair person that I've had in a long time. We've had American Home Shield for about 15 years and they're great. I'd recommend everybody to get them.

One of American Home Shield's representatives called and told me that if I compared their contract with others, AHS covered more, especially in terms of the different parts that they covered. So, I checked the contract that he sent me and the other companies' contracts, and that was right. So, I signed up with them and I've been with AHS for two months now.

When my furnace wouldn’t kick on after a bad windstorm, I called for a repairman. Submitting the claim to AHS was easy. I called and gave the information for my policy to the representative, then she called around and found a furnace repair place that could come and repair it. After that, she called me back and told me that a guy from Salego Heating & Air Conditioning was coming. I had a brief interaction with him and he was nice. It turned out that there was a fail-safe in the furnace that I didn’t know about that kicked on and I couldn’t figure out how to kick it off. But everything got done really quickly and since the repair, my house has been warm and livable again. I was really pleased with everything.

I had my very first claim with American Home Shield and I liked the convenience of going online and being able to book fast. That was probably the most convenient part of what went on, especially when you’re dealing with a repair that you’re not necessarily happy about or that’s giving you an inconvenience or some kind of discrepancy. The claims process was fast and easy. The website is pretty cut and dry, and someone got back to me relatively quickly. Then it was good to go.

The hot water wasn’t coming on in the shower. But within six hours, High Priority Plumbing had contacted me and in 24 hours, they were able to come out. They called to schedule then the guy called a couple of hours before he came by and told me he was on his way. That was it. It was pretty straightforward and simple. To do the repair, someone would probably have to go a little bit deeper but he did what he could as far as how high everything was configured. Plus he told me that if there was any more problem, we had a 60-day window to talk to him further. He was outstanding and very professional.

Every time I’ve called in to American Home Shield, I’ve gotten directed to somebody who doesn’t understand or speak English very well. I wanted to see if my dryer vent cleanout would be covered but the rep kept asking me what kind of dryer I had. He was sending a dryer person when my dryer wasn’t even broken. The vent just needed to be cleaned out. I also had a bad experience with American Home Shield in the past where an air conditioner technician showed up drunk. Because of that, I didn’t use American Home Shield for 10 years. If it is not to my standard, I will not use it.

But for my most recent claim, I went online to file that. My oven didn’t seem to be heating correctly but when the tech tested the unit, he said that it was within standards. There was a standard measurement that he gave me and basically if the temperature is within five degrees of what you set it at, it’s supposed to be good. But when I had somebody else come out, he explained to me how it needed a whole new heating element. He explained to me thoroughly how it worked and that the other person was basically ripping me off. So I was very happy with American Home Shield’s service. The technician was perfect.

So luckily, the ejector pump I have doesn’t have that many items for you to get into it. So, it wasn’t an issue. But the contractors never showed up. When I called, they said they were trying to squeeze me in and there was some kind of miscommunication with them. I won't know for sure until they come out to actually do the repair. Other than that, the contractors that have been sent out have been excellent. I highly recommend American Home Shield.

Some of the power in our house wasn't working and it was really weird. Certain things in the house didn't work and it was kinda random. Later, we figured out that it had to do with how much electricity the appliances or lights were pulling. There's a certain amount of voltage coming into the house and there are two wires that each carry half of it. One of them was disabled so we were still getting power, but half of the power we should get. The air conditioner, our stove and certain things that take more power wouldn't work. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and the experience was good. Plus, in the end, it was easier than calling.

I'm a realtor and I'm used to calling American Home Shield. Typically, I would rather call but in my experience, calling them is worse than going to the dentist. Sometimes, I have to wait on hold for hours. I'd just call, leave my phone on speaker, do other work and not use my phone for anything else. God forbid I have to disconnect and start all the way over after waiting an hour. I'm the type of person that likes to talk with somebody, tell them what's going on and ask them to help me fill out or make a claim.

I was really impressed with Rush's Repair Service's contractor. He seemed a bit more personable than some of the contractors we've had before. He called me first thing in the morning and found out what was going on. I said that it was hot and our air conditioner won't work. He said he was coming. He came out at 8 AM, which was really early. He was able to immediately tell that it was a problem with the power company's lines coming in. He told us what the issue was and to contact the power company. He also said he could tell the power company exactly what was going on in case they had any questions. He was really helpful. The power company was out here in the next couple of hours and they took care of the problem.

When I had to get an appliance repaired, it was really good and easy. But any time I've dealt with air condition issues, it has always been a nightmare. I've had several claims myself and several for clients. Typically, when you finally get through and get the service ordered, it takes a long time for the people to come out. If AHS had a local person come, they could come the same day. Then, when they come out, they tell you what is wrong and they have to order a part that they say will take two weeks. Then you don't hear anything and have to keep calling and calling.

We're constantly in the battle. We need to get the repairs done the next week. AHS will save us the money but it'll take weeks or months. We've had it take over a month to get something fixed before. We've had several different companies and have had the same experience with some of them. The guy will call saying that he's on his way, but if you try to call back, you're on hold for an hour.

Plus, a lot of times, AHS has different contractors show up at different points. In other words, one guy will come out and say that I need a new compressor. Then he writes down that AHS needs to order a new compressor. But then, in a week and a half, when I call back to follow up, AHS sends somebody from a different air condition company out. The new guy then says that he doesn't know if I need a new compressor and that I might need another part. It's not efficient.

This time, because we submitted the claim on a weekend, we did not get a response back until Monday. But we had a problem with the furnace, the heater, a couple years ago and we heard back within 12 hours. So, their response depends on what the issue is and whether they pick somebody here that’s in town which is a small town, or if they have to come a little ways. Luckily, the last two times had been here in town.

For our our latest claim, the contractor from Central Valley came out, he showed up about five minutes before his appointment. He took a look at the disposal, tried to turn it on, and then he said, "It needs to be replaced." And he had it replaced, and was done within a half hour. He had a new garbage disposal, and he cleaned out all the pipes, the lines, and it works great. I love American Home Shield. I’ve had to use it about three times. Updated on 07/30/2019: I have been with AHS for over 6 years. After having a few issues to go unresolved, I wrote a review in the company. I received a letter a couple of months later advising my contract would not be reviewed. I called for an explanation and to see if it was retaliation for the review, I was told it’s their decision to renew or not. I have recommended some family and friends to the service and have yet to receive my $25 referral fee. As long as you don’t complain and just deal with poor service.

Original review: I have been paying this company for services for approx. 6 years. My refrigerator went out on Dec. 27, 2018. The contractor told AHS the diagnosis and it took. Jan 15, 2019 the contractor had parts, put them on and said it was fixed. He made repairs 3 times. I lost my food 3 times due to me being told it was fixed and it wasn’t. My food molded in the refrigerator on 3 occasions and melted/defrosted on each occasion. The company stated they weren’t responsible and would not replace or reimburse. However, 1 rep agreed to a $50 check. Nowhere near my loss… What's the point in paying for coverage and a service and the company isn't responsible for the contractor repairing it or the amount of time. This is sad, false advertisement and mistreatment of clients. My refrigerator was finally warranted out, however, no one would even contact me back and I did exactly what the email instructions required me to do.

The 1st response was an offer of a particular refrigerator, I agreed and accepted. No response for a week. I had to email people and beg for assistance. I finally got a response, which was, “Sorry, the refrigerator we offered isn’t available.” They sent another offer, I accepted and had to ask people to help me get a response again. I finally heard back around Feb 9 and just received my refrigerator today February 20. I can’t believe AHS showed a complete disregard during my experience. It took almost 3 months, a loss of food on 3 occasions, having to feed my family from restaurants and having to grocery shop daily, to finally have some normalcy in ref to a refrigerator. The service started out great, but over the years, customer service has declined and service in general. It should not take this long to follow through on a service customers pay for. Wait times to speak to someone on the phone were 45 minutes.

Our new house has a pool so I switched to AHS since they cover pools. I will be cancelling and going back to 2-10. Our furnace went out in October 2018. They assigned a local company and after 8 weeks and 8 service calls they finally fixed our heat on December 5th. I get an email notice that I have a $100 late fee. Call up customer service and the first guy I talked to I literally couldn't understand him. He couldn't explain the late bill only that I owed them $100. After 30 minutes I asked for a manager. The supposedly supervisor named Jay was absolutely no help at all. Remind you the last visit was on Dec 5th and this new unexplained bill is from January 25th, 2019.

Jay just kept telling me that I owed the $100 and that if I cancelled my contract they will send me to small claims court. I asked him to call the local heating company and lets all three talk this out. He wouldn't and was no help at all. Told me I had to pay the bill or else. So I called the local company, they know us very well over the past 2 months of them not being able to fix our furnace. They confirmed they did not send any additional bills to AHS and I only had to pay the first $100 the first time they came out. AHS will not budge and you can't reason with them at all or understand them for that matter. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Do not use them. Too many other home warranty companies out there to have this bother.

We had a leaking toilet situation, and a contractor sent by AHS came out. And it was really interesting from the standpoint that they are GPS-ed on their vehicle, so we knew exactly where they were and how long it was gonna take to get here, and who was coming. They sent a picture of the repair guy, and we could see that he was 14 minutes away, and I thought that they were really good service. They were totally professional. I was pleased with them.

I spoke with somebody about a bill that I'd gotten. I had gotten a bill for an additional amount, which I didn't understand why. I didn't argue the case and I just paid it. But when I called to ask about that, and then I asked about filing a request, the person I talked to said he could take care of it. He did and he scheduled the appointment. So, it worked out well.

I went with American Home Shield ‘cause that was what came with my Realtor and everything with Century 21. But if I had the opportunity, I’d go with another company. The freezer of my refrigerator was leaking water and freezing up under. I submitted a claim online to get it fixed and American Home Shield got OKC Appliance King out in two days. The tech was very nice and he was there right when he said he would be. He cleaned the refrigerator out, but he said the problem could happen again. He had seen it happen with just about every refrigerator he had ever worked on. But I haven't noticed anything being a problem with the freezer, so hopefully, there won't be any more issues.

I've also used AHS on other times, and both times were fine. However, it would be really nice if there was a concise or good list of what the warranty actually covered that they would send out when you sign up. Once, I had a plumber out to do some stuff and I was thinking part of that would've been covered too. But, I didn't think about it before I called them. I also had several little things that I needed taken care of and I didn't know if that would be one claim or several claims. Still, I've been very satisfied with American Home Shield.

The furnace went out and we filed a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor sent by AHS came out and diagnosed the problem as the furnace needing a fan and another part which they replaced. It took several days for them to repair it. But within a couple weeks the furnace went out again, so they came back. It was a Sunday and even colder then, but they came back quickly the second time and fixed the furnace, and we appreciated that.

Luckily, it wasn’t so cold the first time, but it was certainly hard to not have heat. So, we had to use electric heaters and the fireplace, and our electricity bill was significantly higher than it would normally be. It certainly would have been nice to have the furnace all fixed the first time the contractor came. But other than that, it was nice that they were fixing the heater. Also, it was really nice the second time that the customer service rep got the contractor to come out and we didn’t have to pay an additional $75 since they figured that the contractor couldn’t have fixed everything that needed to be fixed. The techs were very pleasant on both times that they were here and my daughter liked them. The guy showed her what he was doing. The total time it took for the issue to be resolved in full was five days. Everything has been good since the contractor was finally able to repair the furnace.

We’ve been using the website and it is reasonable and fairly straightforward. We had the first two people come out and say, “Well, I don’t know. We think we can get it working.” They got it working for half a day, then it just conked out on us and it wasn’t until the third visit that things got fixed. It took about a month for it to be resolved. We’ve also filed other claims in the past and they were resolved fairly quickly and fairly reliably. The worst experience we had was for the water heater in the sense that it seemed to be that we had to continually keep asking for them to get things going. I had a refrigerator that needed to be replaced and American Home Shield replaced it, but it came in damaged four times before the one that wasn't damaged came in. It took almost two months. It wasn’t the fault of AHS. It was the fault of GE for the way they packaged and shipped their refrigerators. I have Airmax as my air condition heating contractor, so when the pilot light control was dirty, I called them. When the tech came, we called American Home Shield to clear everything and then he could go to work.

I’ve had about two contractors in the whole time I’ve been dealing with AHS that I really didn’t approve of. However, I went the distance with these contractors and got the resolution, but they weren’t the most professional people, and certainly was not going to do a good job until I supervised them. I’m a mechanical engineer, so I understand electrical, refrigeration, and plumbing. When they come in here to do repairs like that, they can’t pull the wool over my eyes. I've had to straighten out several techs by explaining to them I know what they know.

There were also two or three times that I’ve actually escorted the techs out of the front door. The owners of the companies have called me and I explained to them what their service people did that wasn’t right, and they’ve thanked me. I’ve also called AHS and told them what went wrong and they thanked me too, but I never had a follow-up. Everybody has different experiences with AHS. I have friends that had AHS and hated the experience they had with them. I, however, have had AHS now for about 15 years, and I have yet to have a really bad experience. I’ve had some that didn’t exactly go as they should, but that’s far and few between with the problems that I’ve had. I have the most expensive policy, and it pays off in the long run because I don’t get disappointed when it comes to fixing things.

The service was poor and it took us almost five weeks to get our freezer back up and running again. There were four different visits by Sears and they sent parts three different times. They never went and got a part. They had parts mailed to us and we had to alert them when the parts arrived, then they had to schedule a follow-up appointment to come. They replaced the same part multiple times, which did not fix the issue. They had the same repairman come three times, then they sent a different repairman and he had it fixed within a couple of hours.

We also just had a hot water issue and the experience was great. I put the claim in the evening and I had someone on the phone with me the next morning. I had a contractor at the site within 12 hours. He was a local guy and he was very accommodating for my time schedule. He got to the problem very quickly and handled business very quickly. I requested American Home Shield that same company be sent to come out and look at the hot water heater that is in our rental. They kept coming out and saying that the problem was not the hot water heater. They first said the temperature on the hot water heater had two units and they both had to be set at the same temperature. They said that was not what was causing the problem so they left. I called them back out because the heater still wasn’t fixed. The turnaround on that was fine and it didn’t take that long. They drained the hot water heater completely to see if that would fix it, which made no sense whatsoever.

American Home Shield didn't pay for that service. It will be my out of pocket. I’ve refused to pay that because the company didn’t get prior approval before they drained the hot water heater. After they left again, I had to open up another ticket with AHS and we kept going back and forth because they wanted me to pay another service charge. I told them that the original people that put the hot water heater in didn't fix the problem.

AHS sent out another plumber. My husband was saying that when the plumber finally figured out that the hot water heater had a heating element that was bad in it, they replaced it, but then American Home Shield was telling us that we should have filed it on the hot water heater manufacturer because it was still on warranty. I also have had a problem with some of the products that AHS used. I had them take out a faucet a certain time and then it was replaced with a plastic faucet and a plastic knob. It was ridiculous how cheap it was. It looks like it came out of a mobile home. Despite these issues, the hot water heater was fixed after two months.

Unfortunately, it happened on a Friday afternoon and getting somebody to come out on a Friday was hard. I called the gas company and there was a leak at one of the valves that was underneath the floor in the den. They removed the meter, so we didn't have to worry about being in the house with the leak because there was no gas. We were without gas for a couple of days so we just got space heaters to tough it out.

Their techs came out that Monday and figured the issue out quickly because the people at the gas company pinpointed where the leak was at in the den. They chased it down and replaced the valve, which was a valve that went from the furnace to the fireplace. Now, we don't smell gas anymore and the furnace and the fireplace work fine. The techs were very professional and they fixed the issue in a timely manner. They were flawless and did a good job. I was impressed. I had an issue with the water heater and put a claim with American Home Shield online, although I would rather call on the phone. I went several times with AHS over the years on my iPad, where I did my emails, but usually, I get frustrated, so I looked up the phone number and called them instead. The plumber was from Moreno Plumbing. We have had them a time or two before over the years and they were great. But I can't say that for sure on all of the contractors since I've had a couple of problems over the years.

In 2018, I had a couple of calls, and it seemed like the company that AHS used was lacking in skills, both in customer service and the way they do business. I don't think they would be around long. But Moreno is entirely on the other side of the fence. And the majority of the other people that came by, I never had problems with them until the last two before Moreno.

One of them was another plumbing company. I had already prepaid their service, or they were gonna take it out in 48 hours. When their service technician got here I was on the road, and that guy talked my wife into writing a check for him for the whole bill! And so when I got home I called them and they said, "Oh, don't worry about it. We'll put the check in the mail." But the check never came. That went on for a couple of months. The customer service reps at AHS seemed like they were as upset about as I was. They couldn't understand why this was going on. They would call the contractor, but it turned into a jungle mess. Finally, I went out and got a check from the contractor for the amount and went to their bank and cashed it before I came back home.

The other claim was an electrical deal. I had two sets of fluorescent tubes - one in the kitchen and then one in the garage that needed ballasts. I called AHS and told them about it, and they said that it was no problem. The technician came out, went to the kitchen and to the garage. My motorcycle was sitting there and he didn't feel comfortable doing the job, which I understood. He told my wife, "Don't worry about it, I'll come back. Just move the bike." But he never came back. I emailed the company and told them what had happened, but I never got a response.

Nevertheless, those were nothing on AHS. I'm very satisfied with AHS and would greatly recommend them. AHS did what they say they were gonna do. Outside of last year, every technician who comes by has been great. The only real problem way back when I first joined AHS was that they told me I could put my pool, and I believed that we used the word hot tub. So I signed up for it, and for several months, I paid AHS. When I had trouble with my hot tub, they declined a hot tub as being inside the house. It's a Jacuzzi jet tub and I have one outside. Maybe I didn't look to read the contract. But I stayed with AHS, and I've been very happy, although I wish they would take care of hot tubs along with the pool.

I filed a claim online for the water heater that wasn't working. RDN Plumbing, the plumbing company that American Home Shield uses, came out. They diagnosed it and ordered the part. They came out the second time and put the part on. Then, they came out the third time because the hot water heater still was shut off and we were without hot water. And, they said that the reason was that we turned the temperature up too hot, so it shut itself off.

So, I requested a second opinion and American Home Shield agreed to it. They sent out a second company and after the contractor looked at it the first ten minutes, he said that the expansion tank is full and it shouldn’t be. Therefore, it’s acting improperly when it heats up. It can’t expand because the tank is already full and that’s what is shutting it down. Then, he looked at the new part that was put on, which is a computerized piece, and according to him, it is a faulty piece. I was notified by American Home Shield that if the second opinion proved to be what the first guys have done, then I’d be charged an additional $75. Well, that didn’t happen. The second opinion came up with something new and different, and something else that was faulty. We are in the midst of having it fixed it right now. The contractor ordered the part and apparently, it hasn’t arrived because he hasn’t called me to say to reschedule a time to come out and put it on.

The other time I used American Home Shield, it was also RDN Plumbing that came out and fixed the toilet. The contractor asked me how much I paid. I told them it's $75 for the copayment. Then, he said that the part is about $75.50. So, the rest of it was his service fee for coming out. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield. When I buy a new appliance, I’m not enticed to get a warranty because I’m not a big believer in it. The previous seller put American Home Shield on this house. When we sold our house, I put American Home Shield on our house so that the new buyers wouldn’t have any problems. The realtors recommend them, so we were kinda forced into it.

When I had an issue with the heater not coming on, AHS sent Absolute Heating & Cooling. The contractors showed up on time and knew exactly what was wrong. The technician from Rocket Repair tried twice to repair it but whatever he was doing wasn’t working. The strip that goes around the door was replaced as well as some circuit on the back, but the refrigerator was not cooling still. It is a very new LG refrigerator so it’s not a cheap one and it's only two years old. I had to contact AHS again and someone is supposed to come out to figure it out.

We had a variety of things in our pool that weren't working. It seemed like the pump wasn’t working correctly or there were some electrical issues. We don’t really understand pools because it's our first time to have a pool. American Home Shield sent Knock Out Pools. They were great and they fixed the issues. I did the claim over the phone because online, I could only select one thing at a time, and I had a couple of different issues. The rep I worked with was very helpful. It was easy to get a hold of her.

I also had someone come out for the plumbing, and I still need to follow up with American Home Shield. But a plumber came. I had about four different things like the Whirlpool tub not working, there was a valve issue, and two different showers, and the toilet leaking. And so, he checked a couple of things. He looked at the toilet leaking in our master bath and messed around with it a little bit, along with the other things. And then he said he had to check the water pressure on the house because if it's over 80 psi, AHS won't pay for anything that has to do with our water. He went out and checked the water pressure, and he said it was 100 psi, so he couldn’t fix the toilet.

He'd already done two things, but he said the toilet was leaking out of the tank, and it just needs a little piece that was missing like the bolts that bolt the tank onto the back of the toilet. It was leaking through there. The next day, I left. I came back, and there was like two inches of water pooled in my toilet room, which is Travertine. And so, being as a natural stone, it had soaked through there and gotten the carpet in my closet wet. The guy now said, "We can't do anything that has to do with water." But him touching it, made it worse. And now, I still have the toilet issue and the wet carpet issue.

Every time we’ve had any issue, whether it be big or small, they’ve been able to handle it immediately. I prefer to make claims online as it goes by the type of appliance, whether it'd be water, plumbing or electrical. One time our water heater wasn’t connecting so every time we’d take a shower, we’d have cold water. I went online to let AHS know what appliance was having difficulty, and they sent Snappy who got a hold of us right away. Darrell, the technician that came out, took a look at the heater and it turned out it just needed to be cleaned. It wasn’t igniting so he dismantled it, and within 10 minutes, he had it up and running and we haven’t had any issue since.

I called for simple stoppage in our tubs. They sent a contractor who didn't bring his own tools, didn't snake either drain, didn't have the paperwork afterward to write a proper receipt, didn't bring ANY replacement parts, I had to drive the guy to Lowe's to pick up the part and I had to pay for it, AND they told us that we had to pay the $75 fee on the spot. When I called customer support to see why I would have to pay for the replacement part they stated that some companies have us pay for them up front and we get reimbursed.

Then later I'm waiting for my receipt in my e-mail and something from AHS to tell me where my refund is and I get nothing for a week... I call them and the lady tells me "oh no, don't pay him the $75 you pay that to us", ok well that's too late. What can I do about that now? Who do I talk to about what happened so I don't have to see them again and the lady tells me she can e-mail that company to see if someone else might be able to show up to my house but it's not guaranteed, but it has to be that company because the job wasn't done right in the first place so the second call has to be made to the same company. Why on earth would I want the company that scammed me out of an additional $75 to come back out to my house and potentially send the same person to do the job?

I had to ask the same question 5 times and was put on hold for 35+ minutes to get "I can transfer you to the department over us" but then after another wait she comes back with "they can't help you today but I submitted everything to my supervisor and it will take about 48 hours to get a reply." So not only did they send a shady company that lied to us to get an extra $75, made us pay for our part, didn't write a receipt so that I could submit it to claims to get the refund for the part, didn't fix the problem or at least snake the drains... But now they won't even do anything about that company, and they want to send that same company BACK TO MY HOUSE to do the same job again? They should be sending trusted people to my home for the price we pay for this service. I shouldn't have to be concerned with scammers coming to my house that were sent there by my home warranty company. AND THEY SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

When my disposal went out, J & K Plumbing was hard to get a hold of to schedule an appointment. After I missed the first call, I left a couple of messages and they didn’t return them. But once their rep came out, he was really wonderful, professional and fast. He brought the parts with him, got the job done and was in and out.

I'd advise other people to consider AHS. The cost nowadays of replacement and repair is phenomenal. In the past, you have to keep calling back until the contractor has come out five times since they couldn’t fix the problem and it wasn’t covered. The companies that AHS works with have always been fine but the AHS policies are so strict and limiting. They should rearrange their policies to be a little bit clearer. Also, having a 1-800 number where you can talk to somebody would be great. Other than that, I understand how the service works. If you have several older appliances, AHS might be worth it. However, with newer appliances, I wouldn’t suggest spending the $60 a month because I spend $100 every time somebody comes out.

When Aqua-Brite called me, I wasn't gonna be at home when they wanna come in, and I told them that I wanted to be at home with them, because I wanted them to explain the procedure and what they were doing. The guy I spoke with said it would be fine to cancel it and that I had to call American Shield. And that's what I did. I canceled it, and then I submitted a claim again. And that time, they could come in our home when I was here. AHS sent the same company, Aqua-Brite.

The tech was professional. His name is Jordan and he was great. For me, he was talking too fast but I could understand him. He explained what he was doing and answered all my questions. I was very happy with him. He did everything that day except for the heater. Because I didn't realize it, the heater wasn't working at all. It wasn't turned on for years. When Jordan opened that thing, that thing was awkward. He explained to me that he was going to submit it to the claim to see if they were gonna pay for it. And they told me they won't. But everything else was covered by the plan. Jordan did a great job. Overall, it's easy to deal with AHS online. They answer my questions and I haven't had any issues with them.

I was having a problem with the filter and AHS sent a gentleman to replace some gaskets. Other times, the process with AHS has been pretty bad. I’ve waited an hour for somebody to answer the phone. But this time, surprisingly, it was only a 25-minute wait. The only issue I did have this time was they would say that they were gonna get in contact with the pool repair place, and I waited 48 hours, and nobody ever got in contact with them. So, I called the pool place since I had the number, and they said they never got any work issue from AHS, so I had to call back. It was kind of like a back and forth thing a couple times. Things has been working good since the repair. They just have to contact the people they need to contact once they tell me they're gonna contact them, instead of me having to hunt them down

We've been with American Home Shield for a number of years now. We've had large job claims such as for the water heater failure and the air conditioner failure. We shopped around a little bit at other places and when the people who came out and did the work gave us their estimate of what they were gonna do, they said that as per the contract, they didn’t cover certain things. They always seem to find certain things they didn’t cover. And when they gave us an estimate of what we would have to pay out of pocket, they were always much greater than if I would just go to another regular repair place.

For example, right now, we have a water leak under or in the slab which is still not yet resolved. AHS was only covering $1,000 of the cost for diagnosis, access, and supposedly, repair. The repair company that came told me that the concrete needed to be jackhammered and it was gonna be $6,500. They also said that the leak was due to soil movement which wasn’t covered. We didn’t believe it has anything to do with soil movement so we challenged them on that since there was no evidence of a foundation issue.

After a couple of different tries, AHS finally brought someone who had a leak detection instrument. He put it around the floor that they could do the repair. Their price was around $5,000 plus, depending on what they would find. That company said that the issue is right in the slab and didn't say anything about the issue being due to soil movement.

I called out a couple of different other companies not associated with American Home Shield but still reputable and well-known here in Houston. They looked at the issue and said that they do not diagnose and that if we say that leak is at one place, they would get under there with the tunnel which would cost $3,500. So I went from $6,500 to $3,500. And that's the same scenario we had with the water heater and the air conditioner.

We're seriously considering after this whether we continue with American Home Shield. Our insurance company already has an addendum to our policy that would cover major failures like AC, plumbing, or electrical. We've had three major system failures - the AC, the hot water, and the plumbing leak - and all three of those have been a hassle. I haven’t gotten a real warm and fuzzy feeling with the quote that I’ve received from their contractors. The price is inflated and is not competitive to other reputable places. With the slab leak, the price from the other place is half of what I got from AHS' contractor. Wherein other times, it would be 20% to 30% different but was still a large cost. Like for my AC claim, I had a $2,000 worth of difference.

Also, with a warranty, you're lower than the general public when you have a claim. When I talk to the repair companies, they’d tell me that since I'm a warranty person, the soonest they could get to me is within a couple of days. Unlike if you’re someone that they could charge their normal rate to, then they’d get right to you. So you have to make sure that it's not something that you need immediately. Once or twice, we had an immediate thing, and I didn’t even bother calling AHS because I knew they would say it’d be two or three days. By then, my house would have six feet of water in it.

But American Home Shield seems to be fine on small jobs. We had a couple of claims with them for small appliance repairs like our dryer and our refrigerator and they did well. The repair company they sent out found out what was wrong, ordered the parts, then came back within a couple of weeks. It seems to work fine because we didn’t need them to come back. We also had a claim in the past for an electrical short and they changed out the receptacle. So if I calculate the costs with the little claims, we're really getting our money's worth. But right now, I’m not really satisfied with AHS. I’d run the math and see if AHS is still worth keeping to handle the small things like the washer, dryer and refrigerator.

When I submit claims with American Home Shield, it's always online since I can never get a hold of a representative on the phone. I'm on hold forever so it's so much faster if I do it online. The confirmation from the contractor comes automatically and I usually get a call from them within 24 to 48 hours. I've had two issues and the second one was when the valve in the bathroom sink was leaking. AHS sent the contractor, ASAP Plumbing. This last time, when they replaced the valve, one of the valves started leaking after they were gone. So, I had to call them back and told them that there was leaking under the sink, but it took them close to a week to come back and fix the valve because it wasn't fixed the first time. If they didn't fix the issue the first time, they should have come back within the day instead of telling me on a Thursday that the next available appointment would be on the next Monday.

The techs of both companies sent out by AHS have been professional, courteous and nice, and I haven't had a problem with any single contractor. But it would be nice to be able to select a plumber that's under contract with AHS because one company wouldn't give me a certain time frame ASAP but said 9 to 12 o'clock at night, and I had to be here the entire day or be within 30 minutes driving time because they called me 30 minutes prior to getting here. So, I was stuck with having to be in my house or close to it for the entire day.

If I had my choice, I would have selected the other plumbing company because in setting up the time frame for the service they gave me a choice to be here either in the morning or in the afternoon, so they would be here between 9:00 and 12:00 or between 1:00 and 5:00. Also, I still don't know much about what is covered by the warranty and what isn't. When a contractor was having to replace my valve and my shower, the access to the area was not covered by AHS. So, if the plumber did the repair, it was gonna cost me another $300, But if I did the repair, it wouldn't cost me anything except my labor.

The fan motor went out in the furnace and it was pretty obvious when I placed a call to American Home Shield because you could hear it starting to get slower. Anybody would have known that the motor was going out. Since I’m old-fashioned and I prefer interaction with a live human, I submitted the claim over the phone. Generally, it’s always very good. However, I had young lady that I spoke with at American Home Shield who hung up on me when I was trying to explain my problem with Sears, and it really made me angry. I even considered cancelling AHS after that.

As with the contractors, everybody that AHS sends are outstanding, do good work and communicate well with me. This most recent experience with Oasis was an extremely positive experience and I like that vendor. However, I had a situation in September, October, and November with Sears repairing our dishwasher and I will never allow Sears in my home again. I will not pay my money to employ them. It was a such a bad ordeal that I was so grateful when it was resolved and I just wanna get away from it. I had a dishwasher that I needed repaired and I couldn’t get it done. For whatever reason, it just wasn’t happening. Sears came out, looked at it and they said it needed a new control panel. They would have to order the part and it would be here within 10 days. If I call them and let them know when it gets here, they would come back out and fix it. So as promised, the part was ordered, it arrived and I called to have it installed.

Sears sent a guy out and I handed him the part. He asked what it was and I told him that it was the part for the dishwasher. He said that he was a refrigerator repairman and he doesn’t work on dishwashers. I would have to call them back. So, I had to wait another 10 days or two weeks. For whatever reason, they cancelled their appointment and that was where the problem started. I asked them why they cancelled my appointment and they said that the ticket said that the work was already complete. I told them it was not and that I had the part right here on my kitchen counter where they could see it. I would be happy to take a picture and send it to them. It was not installed and my dishwasher does not work. They said that their system says that it does, so I would have to call American Home Shield and start over.

At that point, having a home warranty was clearly worthless to me. I was very upset. I had a part on my kitchen counter waiting for somebody to come install it and I couldn’t get it done because American Home Shield and Sears’ systems weren’t communicating things correctly. That was the worst experience that I’ve ever had but I didn’t pursue anything else on it. I went back to American Home Shield and created a new ticket because somebody closed the original. Finally, it was repaired after another six weeks of going back and forth with Sears. They finally got somebody out there to work on the dishwasher and it took him two minutes to fix it. I didn’t wanna deal with them anymore. I couldn’t even get people to talk to me. I was just another number to them and I never sensed that they really cared.

The stain from the Sears deal is gone. It’s still fresh from my memory, but it doesn’t hurt anymore. As far as American Home Shield goes, they’re good as gold to me and I’m still happy with them. I recommend them to people that I talk to. A couple of weeks ago, a good friend of mine was talking about all the things in his house breaking. I told him that he needs to look at American Home Shield home warranty. It’s good and I like having it. The peace of mind and the assurance that it gives me, to know that if something breaks in, I can get it taken care of professionally in a timely manner. It’s important to me.

So I had to hang up and call back. I had difficulty explaining to them what it was that I was needing maintenance on. The claim got handled after about four phone calls. The contractor's professionalism and quality of service were absolutely stellar. The remote is working again and now it isn't dangerous for me to go behind the pump to try to turn anything on. But American Home Shield haven’t paid my claim yet, so my experience has been absolutely horrible.

We had American Home Shield for years and years, and then we bought another house and we went for another company because the Realtor really pushed it on us. But the first time we had an experience with them, we realized we made a big mistake. The other company was horrible. So, we’re very happy to be back with American Home Shield.

We have a dryer that has a couple of different settings on it. Part of it is the time to dry portion and part of is the moisture setting portion, and we couldn’t put the dryer on time to dry and have it work. It was only working on the moisture setting. So we called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out. They diagnosed the problem in about 10 minutes. They ordered the parts, said it would be in within three to four days, and it was there in two days. We got an appointment set up and the tech came in and fixed it. He was in and out in about 10 or 15 minutes, and everything went great. I paid the deductible online, and it was all good.

I’ve had several issues that I've had to file claims with American Home Shield. The first one was the sump pump where I had somebody come a few times, but then my sump pump failed again. They put in a brand new one but apparently, the company did not put it in right. My basement almost flooded all the way and I asked for an emergency call. I was luckily able to get someone in here. He even wrote on the receipt that whoever put it in did it wrong. He had to redo and re-pipe, so I was annoyed that I had to pay again since it was American Home Shield's contractor that messed up.

The sump pump kept coming disconnected and floating on the top and if I didn’t catch it every time, my basement would have been totally overflowed. I told American Home Shield not to send the same company because it was the third or fourth time they had someone coming out. I also called again and said that I didn’t think I should pay for it because the contractor that came that day on an emergency basis wrote on the receipt that the previous contractor put in the wrong piping or the wrong fitting, and I shouldn’t pay for the $100. They said no and that it has passed three months. I said, “I understand that but this is a fault that I’ve been calling for and you shouldn’t do this. I shouldn’t have to keep paying like this for my copay.”

The main issue was my water heater. I woke up and I heard a hissing noise. I went downstairs and I had water all over my basement. It was leaking from the water heater and the pipes concaved in the middle on the top, so I called AHS early in the morning and they sent somebody that afternoon. I was telling them that the thing was gonna bust and that it was not good. It was leaking and it was gonna explode at any minute. They said that they would send somebody. They sent a woman from the company and she told me it was not the water heater. It was the pipes, the plumbing.

I asked her, “Can you feel the water heater and the water dripping? Can’t you see the water coming out, like flowing?” She said it wass the pipes and that she wasn't gonna be able to do the report and get it in right away. I said that I needed a water heater that time and she said, “Go wash like old times.” I said that if the thing explodes, my basement was done. I already had damage and I needed a water heater as they told me they were gonna send someone with a water heater that day. She said that she would have to put in a report. I got mad and I called American Home Shield, but they said, “All right, whatever. When we get the report, we’ll send someone in.”

In the meantime, I couldn’t wait. I was told that the carbon monoxide was gonna leak from the tank if I didn’t do it soon, so I had to call a separate contractor to come in. I paid $1800 and I only got reimbursed 600, which was baloney. I could live without a dishwasher and I could live without a fridge for a few days, but they should really be prepared and send someone for something that is dangerous like that. I am paying for instances like that. I was very annoyed, but I had to have it done. The last contractor said, “If you did not have this done, you would have had carbon monoxide poisoning at any moment.” I am thinking of going to another company.

I also did some research on other companies and I liked what AHS had to offer and through all the different home warranties this was a good fit for me.

I recently my refrigerator’s ice machine wasn’t working. I went online and submitted a claim for it. It wasn’t an emergency, because I have two ice makers in that same refrigerator and I let them know that. But I still had to go out and buy ice, because the second ice maker doesn't make a lot of ice. My wife uses a lot of ice, plus we had a lot of company at that time. So, it couldn’t keep up. After about a week they contacted me, then a guy came out, looked at it, observed, saw what happened. He explained everything. He was very knowledgeable, very detailed and knew what he was talking about. We had to order a new one, so they ordered one. When it came in, they called me and came to install it. It’s simple and easy and I enjoy working with them. Since the repair, the ice machine is working excellently. It’s phenomenal that it used to make ice before, but not as much as it’s making now.

I've been with American Home Shield for years now and I have recommended them to friends. Their fees keep going up but they're the best way to go because you don't have to worry, especially if your air conditioner goes out as that is a big number to come up with for some people. I moved to my home in 1996 and since then, AHS has kept my air conditioner and furnace working like new because they would come out and replace parts on it.

AHS' reps have always been very nice and the contractors that they have sent over the years have been dependable, except for a one. Once, I filed a claim for my Whirlpool tub that is built-in to my wall. The first guy who came out charged me but he didn't repair it. AHS made up for that and sent another guy. I didn't have to pay for that. That guy, however, was on the bigger side and I had to hire somebody to enlarge my crawl space for him to come back and fix the issue as he couldn't get in it.

AHS has also had my washer, dishwasher, and water heater replaced. I didn't pay a dime for those, but they gave me a price limit. They also gave me the pictures of the units I could choose from. Then, recently, I filed a claim for my dishwasher. AHS sent out Always There Appliance Repair and the guy had to order a drain thing. It took him a week before he came back.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield over the phone was not a difficult process. However, I told AHS that I needed help with my icemaker and microwave. I wanted to get a company out that could look at the turntable on the microwave that does not turn. Since I can’t talk to a person, it only picked up the first one which was the icemaker. AHS was able to get us a contractor very quick to take a look at it and when the contractor called me right away, I asked them if they can also look at the microwave. I was told that I need to get another company. I tried to call back and was held for about 45 minutes to see if I could talk to a person to get them to modify the order. The wait time was just ridiculous and I finally gave up. It was the case with about every company I wait for. I'm an older person and I don’t do a lot of stuff online. So, I will have to pay a separate amount when a contractor comes out for the microwave.

On the other hand, the icemaker quit working in the refrigerator. When the contractor opened the freezer, the first thing he saw was that the icemaker off/on button was set on off. He said that it was the problem. The button is way in the back and I had no idea how it got turned off as I’m the only one who lives in the house. So, he turned it on and he replaced a part of the dispenser that was really worn. He thought that it could contribute to the problems. He also said to see if it makes ice but if not, I can call them back and he will be right back out to take a look at what else it could be. But even before he left, the icemaker started making ice.
