Every time I’ve called in to American Home Shield, I’ve gotten directed to somebody who doesn’t understand or speak English very well. I wanted to see if my dryer vent cleanout would be covered but the rep kept asking me what kind of dryer I had. He was sending a dryer person when my dryer wasn’t even broken. The vent just needed to be cleaned out. I also had a bad experience with American Home Shield in the past where an air conditioner technician showed up drunk. Because of that, I didn’t use American Home Shield for 10 years. If it is not to my standard, I will not use it.
But for my most recent claim, I went online to file that. My oven didn’t seem to be heating correctly but when the tech tested the unit, he said that it was within standards. There was a standard measurement that he gave me and basically if the temperature is within five degrees of what you set it at, it’s supposed to be good. But when I had somebody else come out, he explained to me how it needed a whole new heating element. He explained to me thoroughly how it worked and that the other person was basically ripping me off. So I was very happy with American Home Shield’s service. The technician was perfect.

I submit my claims to American Home Shield over the phone and their service has been very well. The contractor they sent out for the icemaker was on time. He was very professional and he was a good guy. The repair took five minutes and the icemaker has been okay since. AHS called because I didn't pay but I had my bank confirm that I did. Other than that, everything was great.
Good afternoon Jaleh,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated regarding your most recent customer service experience.

One of American Home Shield's representatives called and told me that if I compared their contract with others, AHS covered more, especially in terms of the different parts that they covered. So, I checked the contract that he sent me and the other companies' contracts, and that was right. So, I signed up with them and I've been with AHS for two months now.
When my furnace wouldn’t kick on after a bad windstorm, I called for a repairman. Submitting the claim to AHS was easy. I called and gave the information for my policy to the representative, then she called around and found a furnace repair place that could come and repair it. After that, she called me back and told me that a guy from Salego Heating & Air Conditioning was coming. I had a brief interaction with him and he was nice. It turned out that there was a fail-safe in the furnace that I didn’t know about that kicked on and I couldn’t figure out how to kick it off. But everything got done really quickly and since the repair, my house has been warm and livable again. I was really pleased with everything.

When our kitchen sink was clogged and there was water leaking from the toilet tank, AHS addressed those issues. I did my claim over the phone. For the first time, it took a while for me to talk with someone. But the second time I called, they had the option to call me back and I found that very helpful. AHS had Grade A Plumbing as our contractor and a very professional technician from there came out. He took care of both of the problems with experience. He had all the tools necessary and all the parts in his truck. He fixed the toilet leak by replacing the gasket. He knew what he was doing so I was pretty happy with him. We got AHS through our real estate transaction and we've had it for a couple of months now. I have a positive experience with them. But I don’t like that I don’t have the option to choose my own contractor. I find that troubling.

It was around 20 below zero and our heat went out, so I filed the claim with American Home Shield online at around 1:00 in the morning. The contractor came out by 8:00 in the morning and fixed it. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and he did a good job. By 10 o’clock, everything was back to normal. He was in and out fast. It was a bad ignition that went out, but everything has been working well since he left. American Home Shield has been good. I’ve had the warranty on our property for about a year and a half and it is valuable and worth it.

American Home Shield's guys work very well and I recommend the warranty to people, the first-time buyers at least when they're buying a house. When my pump heater wasn’t working and the motor just kept running, the company that came was Comfort Zone. They came really fast and fixed it right away. They explained and did good. Aside from that, the reps at American Home Shield also answer fast and are really helpful.

Our fridge and dishwasher were not working. American Home Shield sent out Sears tech multiple times and the issue was never fixed. I called AHS back again. It was a nightmare. I questioned to speak someone in the management and the rep told me how no one was available and the only thing that she could do was escalate it to her supervisor. She kept putting me on hold. Eventually, she acquiesced and told me that another contractor would come to resolve the issue. CD’s Appliances then came and everything was resolved. But their technician said that the person who was here last did not configure the device properly and it could have caused a fire in my home. Everything has been running smoothly after the repair. Outside of my one experience, it has been problematic. AHS kept sending the tech, the tech sent the diagnosis to the department, and they kept going back in the loops. It was a difficult process.
Good morning Steve,
I would like to apologize for your most recent service experience and the first interaction with Sears. I am pleased to hear that the second technician was able to complete the repairs and resolve your experience.

I had a dryer and it wasn’t operating properly. It was clogged. I asked the young lady from American Home Shield who was talking to me if that was something that they cover and she said yes. So we set up the appointment. Everything went smoothly there. The gentleman came out, and my son was there to let him in and do his thing, and he did what he had to do.
I've not had any issues with American Home Shield at all. But my first time using them, I had a plumbing problem, and they sent somebody out to me. I told them they can never send that guy out to my house again because he absolutely did nothing and I still had the leak. I was talking to that plumber over the phone, and then in the middle of the conversation, he fell asleep on me and he also wasn’t coherent. So American Home Shield sent someone else out and he fixed the leak. Everybody else who has come out has been great.

Some of the power in our house wasn't working and it was really weird. Certain things in the house didn't work and it was kinda random. Later, we figured out that it had to do with how much electricity the appliances or lights were pulling. There's a certain amount of voltage coming into the house and there are two wires that each carry half of it. One of them was disabled so we were still getting power, but half of the power we should get. The air conditioner, our stove and certain things that take more power wouldn't work. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online and the experience was good. Plus, in the end, it was easier than calling.
I'm a realtor and I'm used to calling American Home Shield. Typically, I would rather call but in my experience, calling them is worse than going to the dentist. Sometimes, I have to wait on hold for hours. I'd just call, leave my phone on speaker, do other work and not use my phone for anything else. God forbid I have to disconnect and start all the way over after waiting an hour. I'm the type of person that likes to talk with somebody, tell them what's going on and ask them to help me fill out or make a claim.
I was really impressed with Rush's Repair Service's contractor. He seemed a bit more personable than some of the contractors we've had before. He called me first thing in the morning and found out what was going on. I said that it was hot and our air conditioner won't work. He said he was coming. He came out at 8 AM, which was really early. He was able to immediately tell that it was a problem with the power company's lines coming in. He told us what the issue was and to contact the power company. He also said he could tell the power company exactly what was going on in case they had any questions. He was really helpful. The power company was out here in the next couple of hours and they took care of the problem.
When I had to get an appliance repaired, it was really good and easy. But any time I've dealt with air condition issues, it has always been a nightmare. I've had several claims myself and several for clients. Typically, when you finally get through and get the service ordered, it takes a long time for the people to come out. If AHS had a local person come, they could come the same day. Then, when they come out, they tell you what is wrong and they have to order a part that they say will take two weeks. Then you don't hear anything and have to keep calling and calling.
We're constantly in the battle. We need to get the repairs done the next week. AHS will save us the money but it'll take weeks or months. We've had it take over a month to get something fixed before. We've had several different companies and have had the same experience with some of them. The guy will call saying that he's on his way, but if you try to call back, you're on hold for an hour.
Plus, a lot of times, AHS has different contractors show up at different points. In other words, one guy will come out and say that I need a new compressor. Then he writes down that AHS needs to order a new compressor. But then, in a week and a half, when I call back to follow up, AHS sends somebody from a different air condition company out. The new guy then says that he doesn't know if I need a new compressor and that I might need another part. It's not efficient.

I call American Home Shield to submit a claim and tell them what needs to be done. They may have somebody contact me, and then they come out and fix the problem. I've had a few things go wrong and the contractors have been all great. I've had good experiences with them. Sears came out for my washing machine, and I recently did a claim for my garage door opener. I had to change on the contractor because they were gonna come out in three days. And then it took a week because I had to switch days because I had a doctor’s appointment. I've had American Home Shield for 14 years and they've been good.

Our door was stuck and it wouldn’t go up and down. I called AHS for service and they deducted the $75 out of my account, but my daughter paid it with her debit. They were supposed to take it out of the debit account and not my checking account. We put in the claim over the phone and I think that’s where the problem happened. Anyway, the guy who came here was a very nice person. He took some parts off the motor, cleaned it all up and aligned the Safe-T-Beams. He was very fair and he gave me a little class on what to do when I ever have the same problem. Overall, I've gotten a good response and I recommended American Home Shield to a friend who lived across the street and just sold his house. He bought another one by the beach. I gave him American Home Shield's phone number and he told me that as soon as he gets settled in the other house, he’s gonna call and get a contract with them.

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for our garbage disposal that quit working. I like the online process. It’s fast. You don’t have to sit on hold, and right away, they give me who the claim has been assigned to and a phone number, and a way to get a hold of them. This time, because we submitted the claim on a weekend, we did not get a response back until Monday. But we had a problem with the furnace, the heater, a couple years ago and we heard back within 12 hours. So, their response depends on what the issue is and whether they pick somebody here that’s in town which is a small town, or if they have to come a little ways. Luckily, the last two times had been here in town.
For our our latest claim, the contractor from Central Valley came out, he showed up about five minutes before his appointment. He took a look at the disposal, tried to turn it on, and then he said, "It needs to be replaced." And he had it replaced, and was done within a half hour. He had a new garbage disposal, and he cleaned out all the pipes, the lines, and it works great. I love American Home Shield. I’ve had to use it about three times. And the first time, we did not have good service, but the last two times have been great.

There was a noise coming from my heat when I turned it on and it looked like something was loose. I called American Home Shield which was very easy to do and the contractor, Myers, came the next day. I loved them. The rep was so nice, respectful and explained stuff. He also saw that one of my pipes was loose which he said was shooting out carbon monoxide too and he fixed it. He told me he put it back together. AHS provides great service. I had some more letters coming in from different home warranties, but I have had AHS for a while, so I try to keep it. I am very satisfied with them and I always recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's online claims process was very easy to do. I filed a claim for a plumbing issue and the contactor came out in about 48 hours. The tech was very professional. My experience with American Home Shield was great. My fan had stopped running and the service guy from World Class AC had to replace a little piece in it. He came in and he was in and out. It was perfect. I did the claim over the phone and I had a nice experience with the AHS rep. They were trying to get everything done for me. I ended up calling on a Saturday. So, it took a while for them to get somebody to come out. Nobody came until Tuesday. I would like AHS to get their guys to call us earlier than 48 hours because now I got another problem going on at the house and I called them to do the service. And we have to wait for 48 hours. So, they didn't contact us to make appointments.

Every time need to call AHS you are on the phone over 30 minutes. On Jan 15, 2019 I received an email that AHS will pay for a new air handler. I had to get a new unit and send them the receipt to show that the work is completed and they can agreed partial payment. On Jan 21 I sent the receipt. A month later, I called and they had to research the payment.
They didn't tell me but they stop payment, and supposedly reissued. I called back few weeks later to find out that they have reissued the payment. Then I call back on 2/20 and after holding on over 30 minutes, I am told that they have to call their payment department and will let me know. No one called me back. On 2/20 I called back and was told that a check was sent yesterday. I asked for an email confirmation. I was told I will not be able to get confirmation. I asked to talk to the payment manager, and customer service hung up the phone. AHS takes their payment on time every month but has a hard time to pay for repairs. The customer service is rude and disinterested to assist loyal customers.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Updated on 07/30/2019: I have been with AHS for over 6 years. After having a few issues to go unresolved, I wrote a review in the company. I received a letter a couple of months later advising my contract would not be reviewed. I called for an explanation and to see if it was retaliation for the review, I was told it’s their decision to renew or not. I have recommended some family and friends to the service and have yet to receive my $25 referral fee. As long as you don’t complain and just deal with poor service.
Original review: I have been paying this company for services for approx. 6 years. My refrigerator went out on Dec. 27, 2018. The contractor told AHS the diagnosis and it took. Jan 15, 2019 the contractor had parts, put them on and said it was fixed. He made repairs 3 times. I lost my food 3 times due to me being told it was fixed and it wasn’t. My food molded in the refrigerator on 3 occasions and melted/defrosted on each occasion. The company stated they weren’t responsible and would not replace or reimburse. However, 1 rep agreed to a $50 check. Nowhere near my loss… What's the point in paying for coverage and a service and the company isn't responsible for the contractor repairing it or the amount of time. This is sad, false advertisement and mistreatment of clients. My refrigerator was finally warranted out, however, no one would even contact me back and I did exactly what the email instructions required me to do.
The 1st response was an offer of a particular refrigerator, I agreed and accepted. No response for a week. I had to email people and beg for assistance. I finally got a response, which was, “Sorry, the refrigerator we offered isn’t available.” They sent another offer, I accepted and had to ask people to help me get a response again. I finally heard back around Feb 9 and just received my refrigerator today February 20. I can’t believe AHS showed a complete disregard during my experience. It took almost 3 months, a loss of food on 3 occasions, having to feed my family from restaurants and having to grocery shop daily, to finally have some normalcy in ref to a refrigerator. The service started out great, but over the years, customer service has declined and service in general. It should not take this long to follow through on a service customers pay for. Wait times to speak to someone on the phone were 45 minutes.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Contacted AHS on 1/2/19 on my heating wasn't working. A week later, a contractor from Sweet Mountain Air came out and left saying it needed parts. A week went by, we never heard from him. When I called, he stated he was busy and will take a look at his work order in his truck and get back to me later. Sure enough, he never call us back. When I call AHS last week on 2/13, and spoke to an associate. She said that she will contact this contractor for their diagnose and get back to me within 24hrs. Today, 2/20 they still never call me back. I am currently on the phone with one of their associate and she said they did not receive the diagnose from the contractor. She said she would need to contact the authorization department for further instructions.
Seriously, it's been over a month and a half and we've been experience the coldest weather in recent years and this company is not showing any sense of urgency. I kept getting this run around from AHS. I also had a bad experience with them on my refrigerator about 6 month ago. Two of their contractors came out and told me that they would not work on my refrigerator because they were not the licensed contractor for LG. When I contacted LG, they sent their authorized contractor and fixed my refrigerator right away. when I submitted the bill to AHS, they said they couldn't give me the reimbursement because I didn't use their assigned contractor. I was totally in disbelief after they told me that. Why is this company and their contractors so contradict with each other? It seems your contractors don't even want to do business with you and that makes me think about my business with your company as well.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Not sure what country their customer service department is in but it is awful. My family used 2-10 home warranty for the last 10 years. Our new house has a pool so I switched to AHS since they cover pools. I will be cancelling and going back to 2-10. Our furnace went out in October 2018. They assigned a local company and after 8 weeks and 8 service calls they finally fixed our heat on December 5th. I get an email notice that I have a $100 late fee. Call up customer service and the first guy I talked to I literally couldn't understand him. He couldn't explain the late bill only that I owed them $100. After 30 minutes I asked for a manager. The supposedly supervisor named Jay was absolutely no help at all. Remind you the last visit was on Dec 5th and this new unexplained bill is from January 25th, 2019.
Jay just kept telling me that I owed the $100 and that if I cancelled my contract they will send me to small claims court. I asked him to call the local heating company and lets all three talk this out. He wouldn't and was no help at all. Told me I had to pay the bill or else. So I called the local company, they know us very well over the past 2 months of them not being able to fix our furnace. They confirmed they did not send any additional bills to AHS and I only had to pay the first $100 the first time they came out. AHS will not budge and you can't reason with them at all or understand them for that matter. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Do not use them. Too many other home warranty companies out there to have this bother.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

The freezer of my refrigerator was leaking water and freezing up under. I submitted a claim online to get it fixed and American Home Shield got OKC Appliance King out in two days. He had seen it happen with just about every refrigerator he had ever worked on. But I haven't noticed anything being a problem with the freezer, so hopefully, there won't be any more issues.
I've also used AHS on other times, and both times were fine. However, it would be really nice if there was a concise or good list of what the warranty actually covered that they would send out when you sign up. Once, I had a plumber out to do some stuff and I was thinking part of that would've been covered too. But, I didn't think about it before I called them. I also had several little things that I needed taken care of and I didn't know if that would be one claim or several claims. Still, I've been very satisfied with American Home Shield.

I had a refrigerator that needed to be replaced and American Home Shield replaced it, but it came in damaged four times before the one that wasn't damaged came in. It took almost two months. It wasn’t the fault of AHS. It was the fault of GE for the way they packaged and shipped their refrigerators. I have Airmax as my air condition heating contractor, so when the pilot light control was dirty, I called them. When the tech came, we called American Home Shield to clear everything and then he could go to work.
I’ve had about two contractors in the whole time I’ve been dealing with AHS that I really didn’t approve of. However, I went the distance with these contractors and got the resolution, but they weren’t the most professional people, and certainly was not going to do a good job until I supervised them. I’m a mechanical engineer, so I understand electrical, refrigeration, and plumbing. When they come in here to do repairs like that, they can’t pull the wool over my eyes. I've had to straighten out several techs by explaining to them I know what they know.
There were also two or three times that I’ve actually escorted the techs out of the front door. The owners of the companies have called me and I explained to them what their service people did that wasn’t right, and they’ve thanked me. I’ve also called AHS and told them what went wrong and they thanked me too, but I never had a follow-up. Everybody has different experiences with AHS. I have friends that had AHS and hated the experience they had with them. I, however, have had AHS now for about 15 years, and I have yet to have a really bad experience. I’ve had some that didn’t exactly go as they should, but that’s far and few between with the problems that I’ve had. I have the most expensive policy, and it pays off in the long run because I don’t get disappointed when it comes to fixing things.

They never went and got a part. They had parts mailed to us and we had to alert them when the parts arrived, then they had to schedule a follow-up appointment to come. They replaced the same part multiple times, which did not fix the issue. They had the same repairman come three times, then they sent a different repairman and he had it fixed within a couple of hours.
We also just had a hot water issue and the experience was great. I put the claim in the evening and I had someone on the phone with me the next morning. I had a contractor at the site within 12 hours. He was a local guy and he was very accommodating for my time schedule. He got to the problem very quickly and handled business very quickly. He had to get a part, but he did it as quickly as possible and we were up and running back with hot water again. It was a very fast turnaround time. I had a great experience with AHS.

The furnace went out and we filed a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor sent by AHS came out and diagnosed the problem as the furnace needing a fan and another part which they replaced. It took several days for them to repair it. But within a couple weeks the furnace went out again, so they came back. It was a Sunday and even colder then, but they came back quickly the second time and fixed the furnace, and we appreciated that.
Luckily, it wasn’t so cold the first time, but it was certainly hard to not have heat. So, we had to use electric heaters and the fireplace, and our electricity bill was significantly higher than it would normally be. It certainly would have been nice to have the furnace all fixed the first time the contractor came. But other than that, it was nice that they were fixing the heater. Also, it was really nice the second time that the customer service rep got the contractor to come out and we didn’t have to pay an additional $75 since they figured that the contractor couldn’t have fixed everything that needed to be fixed. The techs were very pleasant on both times that they were here and my daughter liked them. The guy showed her what he was doing. The total time it took for the issue to be resolved in full was five days. Everything has been good since the contractor was finally able to repair the furnace.

The water heater wasn’t producing hot water anymore and the pilot light seemed to be continually going out. We had to make three calls to American Home Shield before the matter was properly resolved. We had three water heater claims all within a month. We’ve been using the website and it is reasonable and fairly straightforward. We had the first two people come out and say, “Well, I don’t know. We think we can get it working.” They got it working for half a day, then it just conked out on us and it wasn’t until the third visit that things got fixed. It took about a month for it to be resolved. We’ve also filed other claims in the past and they were resolved fairly quickly and fairly reliably. The worst experience we had was for the water heater in the sense that it seemed to be that we had to continually keep asking for them to get things going. Nevertheless, my experience with American Home Shield is reasonable and I’m satisfied.

We had a leaking toilet situation, and a contractor sent by AHS came out. And it was really interesting from the standpoint that they are GPS-ed on their vehicle, so we knew exactly where they were and how long it was gonna take to get here, and who was coming. They sent a picture of the repair guy, and we could see that he was 14 minutes away, and I thought that they were really good service. They were totally professional. I was pleased with them.
I spoke with somebody about a bill that I'd gotten. I had gotten a bill for an additional amount, which I didn't understand why. I didn't argue the case and I just paid it. My heating unit was shooting out cold air more than hot air. American Home Shield sent people over from C & R Plumbing and Heating and they were very kind and easy to talk with. I would have those guys back again in a heartbeat. They weren’t here very long, but they had checked my heating unit and the problem turned out to be a wire in the thermostat. A new thermostat was put in and the wires were crossed. While the heating unit runs much better, I still question whether it is running efficiently. The heating unit is 22 years old and I'm sure it could be more efficient if it was upgraded. I like having American Home Shield though, and I would surely recommend it to everyone.

I requested American Home Shield that same company be sent to come out and look at the hot water heater that is in our rental. They kept coming out and saying that the problem was not the hot water heater. They first said the temperature on the hot water heater had two units and they both had to be set at the same temperature. They said that was not what was causing the problem so they left. I called them back out because the heater still wasn’t fixed. The turnaround on that was fine and it didn’t take that long. They drained the hot water heater completely to see if that would fix it, which made no sense whatsoever.
American Home Shield didn't pay for that service. It will be my out of pocket. I’ve refused to pay that because the company didn’t get prior approval before they drained the hot water heater. After they left again, I had to open up another ticket with AHS and we kept going back and forth because they wanted me to pay another service charge. I told them that the original people that put the hot water heater in didn't fix the problem.
AHS sent out another plumber. My husband was saying that when the plumber finally figured out that the hot water heater had a heating element that was bad in it, they replaced it, but then American Home Shield was telling us that we should have filed it on the hot water heater manufacturer because it was still on warranty. I also have had a problem with some of the products that AHS used. I had them take out a faucet a certain time and then it was replaced with a plastic faucet and a plastic knob. It was ridiculous how cheap it was. It looks like it came out of a mobile home. Despite these issues, the hot water heater was fixed after two months.

I filed a claim online for the water heater that wasn't working. RDN Plumbing, the plumbing company that American Home Shield uses, came out. They diagnosed it and ordered the part. They came out the second time and put the part on. Then, they came out the third time because the hot water heater still was shut off and we were without hot water. And, they said that the reason was that we turned the temperature up too hot, so it shut itself off.
So, I requested a second opinion and American Home Shield agreed to it. They sent out a second company and after the contractor looked at it the first ten minutes, he said that the expansion tank is full and it shouldn’t be. Therefore, it’s acting improperly when it heats up. It can’t expand because the tank is already full and that’s what is shutting it down. Then, he looked at the new part that was put on, which is a computerized piece, and according to him, it is a faulty piece. I was notified by American Home Shield that if the second opinion proved to be what the first guys have done, then I’d be charged an additional $75. Well, that didn’t happen. The second opinion came up with something new and different, and something else that was faulty. We are in the midst of having it fixed it right now. The contractor ordered the part and apparently, it hasn’t arrived because he hasn’t called me to say to reschedule a time to come out and put it on.
The other time I used American Home Shield, it was also RDN Plumbing that came out and fixed the toilet. The contractor asked me how much I paid. I told them it's $75 for the copayment. Then, he said that the part is about $75.50. So, the rest of it was his service fee for coming out. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield. When I buy a new appliance, I’m not enticed to get a warranty because I’m not a big believer in it. The previous seller put American Home Shield on this house. When we sold our house, I put American Home Shield on our house so that the new buyers wouldn’t have any problems. The realtors recommend them, so we were kinda forced into it.

We smelled gas in the house when we moved in. I called in using the American Home Shield 1-800 number and gave them my name and address and told them what was going on. Unfortunately, it happened on a Friday afternoon and getting somebody to come out on a Friday was hard. I called the gas company and there was a leak at one of the valves that was underneath the floor in the den. They removed the meter, so we didn't have to worry about being in the house with the leak because there was no gas. We were without gas for a couple of days so we just got space heaters to tough it out.
Their techs came out that Monday and figured the issue out quickly because the people at the gas company pinpointed where the leak was at in the den. They chased it down and replaced the valve, which was a valve that went from the furnace to the fireplace. Now, we don't smell gas anymore and the furnace and the fireplace work fine. The techs were very professional and they fixed the issue in a timely manner. They were flawless and did a good job. I was impressed. Somehow I crossed something since one side of the plug worked and the other side didn’t and I couldn't figure out what I did when I tried to change it. But everything has been functioning fine now. Having American Home Shield warranty is well worth it and it has paid off so far. I had a sump pump go, I had a garbage disposal go, and I had a switch go. We had a variety of things in our pool that weren't working. It seemed like the pump wasn’t working correctly or there were some electrical issues. We don’t really understand pools because it's our first time to have a pool. American Home Shield sent Knock Out Pools. They were great and they fixed the issues. I did the claim over the phone because online, I could only select one thing at a time, and I had a couple of different issues. The rep I worked with was very helpful. It was easy to get a hold of her.
I also had someone come out for the plumbing, and I still need to follow up with American Home Shield. But a plumber came. I had about four different things like the Whirlpool tub not working, there was a valve issue, and two different showers, and the toilet leaking. And so, he checked a couple of things. He looked at the toilet leaking in our master bath and messed around with it a little bit, along with the other things. And then he said he had to check the water pressure on the house because if it's over 80 psi, AHS won't pay for anything that has to do with our water. He went out and checked the water pressure, and he said it was 100 psi, so he couldn’t fix the toilet.
He'd already done two things, but he said the toilet was leaking out of the tank, and it just needs a little piece that was missing like the bolts that bolt the tank onto the back of the toilet. It was leaking through there. The next day, I left. I came back, and there was like two inches of water pooled in my toilet room, which is Travertine. And so, being as a natural stone, it had soaked through there and gotten the carpet in my closet wet. The guy now said, "We can't do anything that has to do with water." But him touching it, made it worse. And now, I still have the toilet issue and the wet carpet issue.

I had an issue with the water heater and put a claim with American Home Shield online, although I would rather call on the phone. I went several times with AHS over the years on my iPad, where I did my emails, but usually, I get frustrated, so I looked up the phone number and called them instead. The plumber was from Moreno Plumbing. We have had them a time or two before over the years and they were great. But I can't say that for sure on all of the contractors since I've had a couple of problems over the years.
In 2018, I had a couple of calls, and it seemed like the company that AHS used was lacking in skills, both in customer service and the way they do business. I don't think they would be around long. But Moreno is entirely on the other side of the fence. And the majority of the other people that came by, I never had problems with them until the last two before Moreno.
One of them was another plumbing company. I had already prepaid their service, or they were gonna take it out in 48 hours. When their service technician got here I was on the road, and that guy talked my wife into writing a check for him for the whole bill! And so when I got home I called them and they said, "Oh, don't worry about it. We'll put the check in the mail." But the check never came. That went on for a couple of months. The customer service reps at AHS seemed like they were as upset about as I was. They couldn't understand why this was going on. They would call the contractor, but it turned into a jungle mess. Finally, I went out and got a check from the contractor for the amount and went to their bank and cashed it before I came back home.
The other claim was an electrical deal. I had two sets of fluorescent tubes - one in the kitchen and then one in the garage that needed ballasts. I called AHS and told them about it, and they said that it was no problem. The technician came out, went to the kitchen and to the garage. My motorcycle was sitting there and he didn't feel comfortable doing the job, which I understood. He told my wife, "Don't worry about it, I'll come back. Just move the bike." But he never came back. I emailed the company and told them what had happened, but I never got a response.
Nevertheless, those were nothing on AHS. I'm very satisfied with AHS and would greatly recommend them. AHS did what they say they were gonna do. Outside of last year, every technician who comes by has been great. The only real problem way back when I first joined AHS was that they told me I could put my pool, and I believed that we used the word hot tub. So I signed up for it, and for several months, I paid AHS. When I had trouble with my hot tub, they declined a hot tub as being inside the house. It's a Jacuzzi jet tub and I have one outside. Maybe I didn't look to read the contract. But I stayed with AHS, and I've been very happy, although I wish they would take care of hot tubs along with the pool.

Every time we’ve had any issue, whether it be big or small, they’ve been able to handle it immediately. I prefer to make claims online as it goes by the type of appliance, whether it'd be water, plumbing or electrical. One time our water heater wasn’t connecting so every time we’d take a shower, we’d have cold water. I went online to let AHS know what appliance was having difficulty, and they sent Snappy who got a hold of us right away. Darrell, the technician that came out, took a look at the heater and it turned out it just needed to be cleaned. It wasn’t igniting so he dismantled it, and within 10 minutes, he had it up and running and we haven’t had any issue since.

I called for simple stoppage in our tubs. They sent a contractor who didn't bring his own tools, didn't snake either drain, didn't have the paperwork afterward to write a proper receipt, didn't bring ANY replacement parts, I had to drive the guy to Lowe's to pick up the part and I had to pay for it, AND they told us that we had to pay the $75 fee on the spot. When I called customer support to see why I would have to pay for the replacement part they stated that some companies have us pay for them up front and we get reimbursed.
Then later I'm waiting for my receipt in my e-mail and something from AHS to tell me where my refund is and I get nothing for a week... I call them and the lady tells me "oh no, don't pay him the $75 you pay that to us", ok well that's too late. What can I do about that now? Who do I talk to about what happened so I don't have to see them again and the lady tells me she can e-mail that company to see if someone else might be able to show up to my house but it's not guaranteed, but it has to be that company because the job wasn't done right in the first place so the second call has to be made to the same company. Why on earth would I want the company that scammed me out of an additional $75 to come back out to my house and potentially send the same person to do the job?
I had to ask the same question 5 times and was put on hold for 35+ minutes to get "I can transfer you to the department over us" but then after another wait she comes back with "they can't help you today but I submitted everything to my supervisor and it will take about 48 hours to get a reply." So not only did they send a shady company that lied to us to get an extra $75, made us pay for our part, didn't write a receipt so that I could submit it to claims to get the refund for the part, didn't fix the problem or at least snake the drains... But now they won't even do anything about that company, and they want to send that same company BACK TO MY HOUSE to do the same job again? They should be sending trusted people to my home for the price we pay for this service. I shouldn't have to be concerned with scammers coming to my house that were sent there by my home warranty company. AND THEY SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

When I submit claims with American Home Shield, it's always online since I can never get a hold of a representative on the phone. I'm on hold forever so it's so much faster if I do it online. The confirmation from the contractor comes automatically and I usually get a call from them within 24 to 48 hours. I've had two issues and the second one was when the valve in the bathroom sink was leaking. AHS sent the contractor, ASAP Plumbing. This last time, when they replaced the valve, one of the valves started leaking after they were gone. So, I had to call them back and told them that there was leaking under the sink, but it took them close to a week to come back and fix the valve because it wasn't fixed the first time. If they didn't fix the issue the first time, they should have come back within the day instead of telling me on a Thursday that the next available appointment would be on the next Monday.
The techs of both companies sent out by AHS have been professional, courteous and nice, and I haven't had a problem with any single contractor. But it would be nice to be able to select a plumber that's under contract with AHS because one company wouldn't give me a certain time frame ASAP but said 9 to 12 o'clock at night, and I had to be here the entire day or be within 30 minutes driving time because they called me 30 minutes prior to getting here. So, I was stuck with having to be in my house or close to it for the entire day.
If I had my choice, I would have selected the other plumbing company because in setting up the time frame for the service they gave me a choice to be here either in the morning or in the afternoon, so they would be here between 9:00 and 12:00 or between 1:00 and 5:00. Also, I still don't know much about what is covered by the warranty and what isn't. When a contractor was having to replace my valve and my shower, the access to the area was not covered by AHS. So, if the plumber did the repair, it was gonna cost me another $300, But if I did the repair, it wouldn't cost me anything except my labor.

The tech was running late and he got sick. And then the original scheduling was the wrong day from what they had set. The tech had a scheduling conflict. He contacted my wife and told her that. He was gonna have somebody come out the next day but no one showed up and we didn't get any callbacks.
So I went back to AHS and requested if they can send Sirius or somebody else out. It was just a bunch of back and forth. They gave me a very difficult time to maneuver things. They strung me along for three days. And having a call center in the Philippines and not in the U.S. makes language a very difficult issue. They also insist that they're in the States. Lying to their customers doesn't help. Also, when I requested to speak to a manager that I could actually understand, I was 45 minutes on hold before they put somebody on the phone. So I'm not really happy and I'm disappointed with American Home Shield right now. American Home Shield wasn't my choice. We purchased the home and AHS is part of the contract. Nevertheless, I have been very happy with Sirius Plumbing.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

My heater was not working well and American Home Shield sent Comfort Temp Heating & Cooling out. They came right away, checked it, used some maintainer and it started working again. And then I had an issue again and they came right away again. They were great. The service was super. Everything is working now. It was during the polar vortex, so a lot of people had issues with heaters because they were kind of over-doing it. I did the claim online and the website is self-evident and super easy to use. I've had American Home Shield for six months and I already used it twice. They have been great, so far. It's so very practical. I like it a lot.

The fan motor went out in the furnace and it was pretty obvious when I placed a call to American Home Shield because you could hear it starting to get slower. Anybody would have known that the motor was going out. Since I’m old-fashioned and I prefer interaction with a live human, I submitted the claim over the phone. Generally, it’s always very good. However, I had young lady that I spoke with at American Home Shield who hung up on me when I was trying to explain my problem with Sears, and it really made me angry. I even considered cancelling AHS after that.
As with the contractors, everybody that AHS sends are outstanding, do good work and communicate well with me. This most recent experience with Oasis was an extremely positive experience and I like that vendor. However, I had a situation in September, October, and November with Sears repairing our dishwasher and I will never allow Sears in my home again. I will not pay my money to employ them. It was a such a bad ordeal that I was so grateful when it was resolved and I just wanna get away from it. I had a dishwasher that I needed repaired and I couldn’t get it done. For whatever reason, it just wasn’t happening. Sears came out, looked at it and they said it needed a new control panel. They would have to order the part and it would be here within 10 days. If I call them and let them know when it gets here, they would come back out and fix it. So as promised, the part was ordered, it arrived and I called to have it installed.
Sears sent a guy out and I handed him the part. He asked what it was and I told him that it was the part for the dishwasher. He said that he was a refrigerator repairman and he doesn’t work on dishwashers. I would have to call them back. So, I had to wait another 10 days or two weeks. For whatever reason, they cancelled their appointment and that was where the problem started. I asked them why they cancelled my appointment and they said that the ticket said that the work was already complete. I told them it was not and that I had the part right here on my kitchen counter where they could see it. I would be happy to take a picture and send it to them. It was not installed and my dishwasher does not work. They said that their system says that it does, so I would have to call American Home Shield and start over.
At that point, having a home warranty was clearly worthless to me. I was very upset. I had a part on my kitchen counter waiting for somebody to come install it and I couldn’t get it done because American Home Shield and Sears’ systems weren’t communicating things correctly. That was the worst experience that I’ve ever had but I didn’t pursue anything else on it. I went back to American Home Shield and created a new ticket because somebody closed the original. Finally, it was repaired after another six weeks of going back and forth with Sears. They finally got somebody out there to work on the dishwasher and it took him two minutes to fix it. I didn’t wanna deal with them anymore. I couldn’t even get people to talk to me. I was just another number to them and I never sensed that they really cared.
The stain from the Sears deal is gone. It’s still fresh from my memory, but it doesn’t hurt anymore. As far as American Home Shield goes, they’re good as gold to me and I’m still happy with them. I recommend them to people that I talk to. A couple of weeks ago, a good friend of mine was talking about all the things in his house breaking. I told him that he needs to look at American Home Shield home warranty. It’s good and I like having it. The peace of mind and the assurance that it gives me, to know that if something breaks in, I can get it taken care of professionally in a timely manner. It’s important to me.

My shower backed up and then about a week later, the sink in the garbage that drains my washer overflowed the garage. I called American Home Shield. The reps were very pleasant and handled the information. I paid $75 for the service and they gave me the name of the company that would be servicing me. It was a Friday so the rep told me that if there was a cancellation, she would try to get to me that day. If not, they would be there on Monday.
The technician who came was good. I'm real funny about having different people coming into the house and sometimes, I get a technician that I really don't like. But he was very friendly and I felt at ease with him. He was thorough and he gave me a couple of ideas that I could do myself to keep the pipes clean. If I had another plumbing problem, I would want that person. I also asked me to check the other pipe and he said it was clear. He also told me that if something comes up within 30 days, I could call us back and he would come back. That put me at ease and I was very pleased with him.

I had an issue with the heater, the pump, and electricity in my pool. I did a claim with American Home Shield via online and it was easy for me to do. When Aqua-Brite called me, I wasn't gonna be at home when they wanna come in, and I told them that I wanted to be at home with them, because I wanted them to explain the procedure and what they were doing. The guy I spoke with said it would be fine to cancel it and that I had to call American Shield. And that's what I did. I canceled it, and then I submitted a claim again. And that time, they could come in our home when I was here. AHS sent the same company, Aqua-Brite.
The tech was professional. His name is Jordan and he was great. For me, he was talking too fast but I could understand him. He explained what he was doing and answered all my questions. I was very happy with him. He did everything that day except for the heater. Because I didn't realize it, the heater wasn't working at all. It wasn't turned on for years. When Jordan opened that thing, that thing was awkward. He explained to me that he was going to submit it to the claim to see if they were gonna pay for it. And they told me they won't. But everything else was covered by the plan. Jordan did a great job. Overall, it's easy to deal with AHS online. They answer my questions and I haven't had any issues with them.

Our heater was not working. We had it on 71 or 72, but it was 67 on that floor. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the call was automated as most of the phone calls are today. YAZD Mechanical, the contractor that AHS sent, was good in terms of their service and professionalism. They contacted me to let me know when they would be out. I was set up for an appointment and somebody was sent out.
The tech came on the same day as the call and he was there on time. He seemed knowledgeable, checked the heater out, and explained what was going on. But he said everything is working fine with our heater and he didn’t find anything. He just cleaned up a little bit in there. He also told us to let him know if there was any other problem. The next morning, I was hearing some kind of motor or grinding sounds coming from the system, but since that day I never heard it again. The claims were done online and then they followed up with a phone call. It was pretty simple and easy. I recently my refrigerator’s ice machine wasn’t working. I went online and submitted a claim for it. It wasn’t an emergency, because I have two ice makers in that same refrigerator and I let them know that. But I still had to go out and buy ice, because the second ice maker doesn't make a lot of ice. My wife uses a lot of ice, plus we had a lot of company at that time. So, it couldn’t keep up. After about a week they contacted me, then a guy came out, looked at it, observed, saw what happened. He explained everything. I've been with American Home Shield for years now and I have recommended them to friends. Their fees keep going up but they're the best way to go because you don't have to worry, especially if your air conditioner goes out as that is a big number to come up with for some people. I moved to my home in 1996 and since then, AHS has kept my air conditioner and furnace working like new because they would come out and replace parts on it.
AHS' reps have always been very nice and the contractors that they have sent over the years have been dependable, except for a one. Once, I filed a claim for my Whirlpool tub that is built-in to my wall. The first guy who came out charged me but he didn't repair it. AHS made up for that and sent another guy. I didn't have to pay for that. That guy, however, was on the bigger side and I had to hire somebody to enlarge my crawl space for him to come back and fix the issue as he couldn't get in it.
AHS has also had my washer, dishwasher, and water heater replaced. I didn't pay a dime for those, but they gave me a price limit. They also gave me the pictures of the units I could choose from. Then, recently, I filed a claim for my dishwasher. AHS sent out Always There Appliance Repair and the guy had to order a drain thing. It took him a week before he came back.

We've been with American Home Shield for a number of years now. We've had large job claims such as for the water heater failure and the air conditioner failure. We shopped around a little bit at other places and when the people who came out and did the work gave us their estimate of what they were gonna do, they said that as per the contract, they didn’t cover certain things. They always seem to find certain things they didn’t cover. And when they gave us an estimate of what we would have to pay out of pocket, they were always much greater than if I would just go to another regular repair place.
For example, right now, we have a water leak under or in the slab which is still not yet resolved. AHS was only covering $1,000 of the cost for diagnosis, access, and supposedly, repair. The repair company that came told me that the concrete needed to be jackhammered and it was gonna be $6,500. They also said that the leak was due to soil movement which wasn’t covered. We didn’t believe it has anything to do with soil movement so we challenged them on that since there was no evidence of a foundation issue.
After a couple of different tries, AHS finally brought someone who had a leak detection instrument. He put it around the floor that they could do the repair. Their price was around $5,000 plus, depending on what they would find. That company said that the issue is right in the slab and didn't say anything about the issue being due to soil movement.
I called out a couple of different other companies not associated with American Home Shield but still reputable and well-known here in Houston. They looked at the issue and said that they do not diagnose and that if we say that leak is at one place, they would get under there with the tunnel which would cost $3,500. So I went from $6,500 to $3,500. And that's the same scenario we had with the water heater and the air conditioner.
We're seriously considering after this whether we continue with American Home Shield. Our insurance company already has an addendum to our policy that would cover major failures like AC, plumbing, or electrical. We've had three major system failures - the AC, the hot water, and the plumbing leak - and all three of those have been a hassle. I haven’t gotten a real warm and fuzzy feeling with the quote that I’ve received from their contractors. The price is inflated and is not competitive to other reputable places. With the slab leak, the price from the other place is half of what I got from AHS' contractor. Wherein other times, it would be 20% to 30% different but was still a large cost. Like for my AC claim, I had a $2,000 worth of difference.
Also, with a warranty, you're lower than the general public when you have a claim. When I talk to the repair companies, they’d tell me that since I'm a warranty person, the soonest they could get to me is within a couple of days. Unlike if you’re someone that they could charge their normal rate to, then they’d get right to you. So you have to make sure that it's not something that you need immediately. Once or twice, we had an immediate thing, and I didn’t even bother calling AHS because I knew they would say it’d be two or three days. By then, my house would have six feet of water in it.
But American Home Shield seems to be fine on small jobs. We had a couple of claims with them for small appliance repairs like our dryer and our refrigerator and they did well. The repair company they sent out found out what was wrong, ordered the parts, then came back within a couple of weeks. It seems to work fine because we didn’t need them to come back. We also had a claim in the past for an electrical short and they changed out the receptacle. So if I calculate the costs with the little claims, we're really getting our money's worth. But right now, I’m not really satisfied with AHS. I’d run the math and see if AHS is still worth keeping to handle the small things like the washer, dryer and refrigerator.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I’ve had several issues that I've had to file claims with American Home Shield. The first one was the sump pump where I had somebody come a few times, but then my sump pump failed again. They put in a brand new one but apparently, the company did not put it in right. My basement almost flooded all the way and I asked for an emergency call. I was luckily able to get someone in here. He even wrote on the receipt that whoever put it in did it wrong. He had to redo and re-pipe, so I was annoyed that I had to pay again since it was American Home Shield's contractor that messed up.
The sump pump kept coming disconnected and floating on the top and if I didn’t catch it every time, my basement would have been totally overflowed. I told American Home Shield not to send the same company because it was the third or fourth time they had someone coming out. I also called again and said that I didn’t think I should pay for it because the contractor that came that day on an emergency basis wrote on the receipt that the previous contractor put in the wrong piping or the wrong fitting, and I shouldn’t pay for the $100. They said no and that it has passed three months. I said, “I understand that but this is a fault that I’ve been calling for and you shouldn’t do this. I shouldn’t have to keep paying like this for my copay.”
The main issue was my water heater. I woke up and I heard a hissing noise. I went downstairs and I had water all over my basement. It was leaking from the water heater and the pipes concaved in the middle on the top, so I called AHS early in the morning and they sent somebody that afternoon. I was telling them that the thing was gonna bust and that it was not good. It was leaking and it was gonna explode at any minute. They said that they would send somebody. They sent a woman from the company and she told me it was not the water heater. It was the pipes, the plumbing.
I asked her, “Can you feel the water heater and the water dripping? Can’t you see the water coming out, like flowing?” She said it wass the pipes and that she wasn't gonna be able to do the report and get it in right away. I said that I needed a water heater that time and she said, “Go wash like old times.” I said that if the thing explodes, my basement was done. I already had damage and I needed a water heater as they told me they were gonna send someone with a water heater that day. She said that she would have to put in a report. I got mad and I called American Home Shield, but they said, “All right, whatever. When we get the report, we’ll send someone in.”
In the meantime, I couldn’t wait. I was told that the carbon monoxide was gonna leak from the tank if I didn’t do it soon, so I had to call a separate contractor to come in. I paid $1800 and I only got reimbursed 600, which was baloney. I could live without a dishwasher and I could live without a fridge for a few days, but they should really be prepared and send someone for something that is dangerous like that. I am paying for instances like that. I was very annoyed, but I had to have it done. The last contractor said, “If you did not have this done, you would have had carbon monoxide poisoning at any moment.” I am thinking of going to another company.
Good morning Alessandria,
Your concerns are understood regarding your American Home Shield experience and the repairs/replacements that were completed. I understand that a portion of the issues are the hold time as well as the CIL value that was offered. I would be glad to speak with you to reach a resolution.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield over the phone was not a difficult process. However, I told AHS that I needed help with my icemaker and microwave. I wanted to get a company out that could look at the turntable on the microwave that does not turn. Since I can’t talk to a person, it only picked up the first one which was the icemaker. AHS was able to get us a contractor very quick to take a look at it and when the contractor called me right away, I asked them if they can also look at the microwave. I was told that I need to get another company. I tried to call back and was held for about 45 minutes to see if I could talk to a person to get them to modify the order. The wait time was just ridiculous and I finally gave up. It was the case with about every company I wait for. I'm an older person and I don’t do a lot of stuff online. So, I will have to pay a separate amount when a contractor comes out for the microwave.
On the other hand, the icemaker quit working in the refrigerator. When the contractor opened the freezer, the first thing he saw was that the icemaker off/on button was set on off. He said that it was the problem. The button is way in the back and I had no idea how it got turned off as I’m the only one who lives in the house. So, he turned it on and he replaced a part of the dispenser that was really worn. He thought that it could contribute to the problems. American Home Shield's claims process is very good. Usually, we call them to put in a request or if it's urgent, I put the order online. Recently, my heating system wasn't working so I called AHS. One of the technicians came the next day and did everything in a very timely manner. Even when we had to get a new part, he went outside and bought it from the retailer. He came back pretty soon and fixed the issue without even me noticing that he was gone for a little bit. Now, the heating system is working very well and I don't have any issues off of it.

American Home Shield is denying my claim for a remote that controls my pool pump. When I called in my claim, the rep couldn't understand me and was completely confused. So I had to hang up and call back. I had difficulty explaining to them what it was that I was needing maintenance on. The claim got handled after about four phone calls. The contractor's professionalism and quality of service were absolutely stellar. The remote is working again and now it isn't dangerous for me to go behind the pump to try to turn anything on. But American Home Shield haven’t paid my claim yet, so my experience has been absolutely horrible.

With American Home Shield, submitting a claim online was easier to access. I would get a text message in around 30 minutes after letting me know who the contractor is. Then, in a day or so, depending on the contractor they'd send, I’d get a phone call to schedule an appointment. When my disposal went out, J & K Plumbing was hard to get a hold of to schedule an appointment. After I missed the first call, I left a couple of messages and they didn’t return them. But once their rep came out, he was really wonderful, professional and fast. He brought the parts with him, got the job done and was in and out.
I'd advise other people to consider AHS. The cost nowadays of replacement and repair is phenomenal. The way I gauge it is when something goes out, I look how much the repair part is versus AHS fixing it. Whichever is the least amount of money, that’s the route I go. And so far, everything’s basically been pushed towards American Home Shield.

We had American Home Shield for years and years, and then we bought another house and we went for another company because the Realtor really pushed it on us. But the first time we had an experience with them, we realized we made a big mistake. The other company was horrible. So, we’re very happy to be back with American Home Shield.
We have a dryer that has a couple of different settings on it. Part of it is the time to dry portion and part of is the moisture setting portion, and we couldn’t put the dryer on time to dry and have it work. It was only working on the moisture setting. So we called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out. They diagnosed the problem in about 10 minutes. They ordered the parts, said it would be in within three to four days, and it was there in two days. We got an appointment set up and the tech came in and fixed it. He was in and out in about 10 or 15 minutes, and everything went great. I paid the deductible online, and it was all good.

I didn’t wait until 24 hours. When I spoke with the contractor on the phone, he asked me to describe what was wrong and he determined, based upon my description, that the heating unit needed to be replaced. So, he came and he brought it and put it in. Everything has been fine since then. I can use the oven and it has made the day-to-day operations in my home better. Our furnace wasn’t working at all and as it was impossible to get someone on the phone from American Home Shield, my only option to submit a claim was to do it online. The website was fine and they responded to me timely. The company that came out did a good job and fixed the problem, which was great. In the past, you have to keep calling back until the contractor has come out five times since they couldn’t fix the problem and it wasn’t covered. The companies that AHS works with have always been fine but the AHS policies are so strict and limiting. They should rearrange their policies to be a little bit clearer. Also, having a 1-800 number where you can talk to somebody would be great. Other than that, I understand how the service works. If you have several older appliances, AHS might be worth it. However, with newer appliances, I wouldn’t suggest spending the $60 a month because I spend $100 every time somebody comes out.

My experiences with American Home Shield were all positive in the approach and application. Assess the problem, tell us part won’t be ordered til Monday by the people who order parts. They are gone by 4pm. Call at approximately 10am Monday to see when we might get this taken care of... Was informed that part will need to be ordered soonest. It will be in Thursday. However they will not schedule the next service call until part is in hand. (I later found the part on Amazon Prime.) Possibly Friday maybe Monday before they might be out again... Temperatures have been in the lower 20s to the upper 30s... We ask if there is any possibility of overnighting the part for an additional fee? They wanted $55 for expedited shipping and said it would be in on Wednesday and once it arrives they will set up the service call.
It is still Monday morning. Reminder we have had no heat since last Wednesday. We asked if it is expedited... Will we get someone out this week. They said can’t guarantee that they will have any technicians available... We were informed that if it is an emergency we can try to get a HVAC company of our choosing to fix it. This is ridiculous. It’s a furnace in February. Not a washer or dryer, not a dishwasher or stove. They made sure to charge our credit card immediately for this claim.
It seems to me that this company has no interest in their customer's safety. What is a home warranty for? Peace of mind that if something breaks it’s covered. You better pray it’s not an emergency! We are looking at 10-14 days without heat if the ten minute techs diagnosed the problem correctly! The part could have been ordered last Friday. They go out of their way to drag out every step of the process. They already have your $$$ then tell you if you want it done in a timely manner call someone else! Seems criminal to treat people this way. I feel this company needs to be held to a much higher level. Customer assistance should not be an additional option after all they already paid for it! Not that it should make any difference, I am a medically retired disabled veteran and live on a strict budget as you all are budgeting to your needs. Service that has been paid for should not come with conditions!

Original Review: I have been with the company for 2 years or so. I have had so many problems with my washer that they keep trying to repair. It has been a nightmare. I had a high end washer that they replaced with another washer that was about half the price which is supposed to be equivalent. Not even a year after having the replacement washer it started having problems. I am now going on a third time for a repairman to come out and repair it. Why? I don't know as obviously its a lemon machine. I have had to spend countless hours at other places to do my laundry as we are a household of four. I have lost income. This company does not care and I have to resort to a arbitration complaint.

Back then though, I didn't know that I could submit the claim online. I also didn't have the right number. AHS told me what number to call and since then, I knew how to call and get straight through to somebody. The overall claims process has been good and I prefer to submit my claims over the phone.

Going through American Home Shield's office is a bit cumbersome. When I get someone on the phone, I tend to not feel like I'm getting good service. But If I could handle it all via the computer, then it works fine. We've used AHS only three times, and overall, the contractors tend to not look professional, like the guy that did the AC tune-up. There was no company name on his truck and he did not have a uniform. Then he said his boss came by to see the unit. They stayed out at the truck and talked for 45 minutes. We wanted him to finish the job and leave so we could get on with our business so lack of professionalism would be the biggest issue. Also, I'm not sure at this point if we've broken even on what we've paid versus having savings.
I had a plumbing issue recently that Sigmond Plumbing came out for. They called it a lazy flush. The first guy was late getting here and he did not do anything to help it so I called back to the contractor and filed with AHS as well. It was a Saturday and I wanted to be sure I could get someone before they closed. Then the owner of the contracting company came at 7 o’clock on a Saturday night so I appreciated that. That was unusually good service. He addressed the problem and he was able to resolve it.

I hadn’t been changing the heater filters out often enough, and that was putting enough back pressure on there that it wasn’t blowing properly. I wasn’t getting heat in the house. I filed the claim online to AHS. The guy from Comfort First Heating & Cooling was out here within a day or two. He told me I was stupid without making me feel stupid. He was courteous, quick, neat and put a little thing on his feet so he didn’t track anything around. He and his assistant were in and out in a half an hour and did a good job. The heater is in perfection since the repair. Glad we have the service from AHS.

There was a leak from my sprayer. It was coming from where the base of the faucet was and it was just running down. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and it was a wonderful experience. They asked me what I needed to get fixed and they gave me the contact information of the plumber that was coming out. Then High Priority Plumbing contacted me and scheduled an appointment and their plumber came in the next day. It took them a week and a half to get the part in, but I was fine with that. The plumber was very polite and he did exactly what he needed to do. He came in and replaced the faucet. It was just loose and he tightened it up. He also checked everything and put everything back under my sink, and signed the paperwork. I've recommended several people to AHS and all of them have American Home Shield.

There was a problem with the drainage at one of my properties. Any time the tenant uses any of the toilets or the washing machine or dishwasher, the water would back up into the shower drain. They said it prevented them from using any of the appliances or the toilets and that was a critical thing. The claims process with AHS worked well. I usually either go online or make a phone call to get a service provider assigned and take care of the work. Service Mechanical of Tidewater came out for the claim and they described the problem well and what it could take to completely resolve the issue, so that was helpful. I've been with AHS for almost 10 years now and even though certain things are not covered, I am happy with them.

We have a toilet upstairs that leaked through the ceiling. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and had a great experience with their customer service rep. However, it was on a Friday night and they would respond within 24 business hours. The following Monday was Patriot's Day so it was Tuesday before we could get anybody. Still, they responded on the first business day.
The guy who came out was great. He explained how things are gonna happen. My husband is 100% disabled, and we haven’t been using that bathroom upstairs. So, the grout did get dried out from non-use and then the water formed around the outside of it. It then started going down through the ceiling in the bathroom below. The plumber was very sweet and I don't always find that in a plumber. Now, AHS's contractor has fixed the plumbing part and they have told us that they've assigned us to another contractor to do the drywall.

There was some error light code on our dishwasher and being a first-time homeowner, we wanna try to do something ourselves, we just didn’t have the time. We read online that there was water getting somewhere like it wasn’t supposed to be. I filed the claim on the American Home Shield app. We got a call wanting to set up an appointment and we set it for that day, and the gentleman from Coastline Appliance, LLC came out. He looked at it, figured out what it was relatively quickly then he said that he had to order a part and he would come out as soon as it’s ready. The part came in a couple of days later then a guy came and did the work. He was very nice, professional, came and fixed it in.
We hate the dishwasher, but it came with the house and we were debating whether or not we should fix it or we should just buy a new one outright. But we’re saving up for it, so we just kept on with our current trajectory and we'd just get one in a couple of months. I was happy that it was able to be fixed and we haven't had anything new crop up. Overall, we will recommend AHS. My sister also has a warranty through them as well.

I found out that I had dead batteries in the wall unit. So, I really didn't need a repair. He told me to check it next time before I call to make sure the batteries are good. A couple of years ago the person from AHS that installed the thermostat didn't tell me that there were batteries. Otherwise, I probably would have taken it apart and checked that first. My experience could have been better if they have people that could work on weekends. Also, their deductible is too high compared to other companies who had $45 or $60 deductibles. Other than that, I’m happy with my AHS experience.

We’ve had a great experience with American Home Shield no matter who comes out. Our more recent claim was related to the air conditioning and they sent out Herrington AC & Heating, out of Mineola. We basically just picked up the phone and said we needed help with the air conditioning. We always do it on the phone and American Home Shield typically gets somebody out here within 24 hours. The issue was something that ran the Freon that drove the fan. So we were without air conditioning for a day or so until the contractor got the right part. But that was okay. It wasn’t freezing here and it didn’t really affect us. Still, Mineola Herrington was great, very quick and efficient.

They reached out to me within 24 hours and they scheduled something with me within two days. They sent United Appliance Services over to come by and the tech did a diagnostic on the machine. Before I even described what happened, he had an idea of what problem was going on, so he was obviously knowledgeable. He determined that there was some motor and a belt that were fried or old or worn. He ordered the part and three to five business days later, he came back with the part and fixed the machine in a couple of hours, and it has been working great since then.

He said they were contractor grade and made to last 15 years. He said that if he were me, he would get a home warranty. I signed up for American Home Shield and I never let it lapse because I think it's beneficial to have it. I've never had any bad experience with it in 12 years. If someone has determined that they need to get a home warranty, American Home Shield is what I would recommend.
My most recent claim was on an electric heat pump that was basically going to emergency heat all the time. It was frosting up the outside portion of the unit that's outside the house, which was running continuously. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. My wife and I are old, and we prefer to use the phone versus the computer. The representatives there are great.
Once I had filed the claim, A&A Heating and Cooling came out in three hours. But once they figured out what was wrong with it, they couldn't get the part immediately. They had to wait a couple of days for the part to come. Plus the technician said he couldn't do it. It was pouring rain here and the unit sits outside. The diagnosis was that it had a defrost board that runs it through a defrost cycle every so many hours and that the defrost board was out. But after a couple of days, they got the part and put it on, and it seems to be working okay. A&A Heating and Cooling did a good job. Sometimes, some contractors kinda look fly-by-night. But the guys from A&A Heating and Cooling did not. They came in a company van and were dressed neatly and respectably. They were respectful and professional in how they handled my claim. Some would contact me right away, but sometimes, I have to call the vendor myself. The vendors should be proactive in letting us know that they’ve received our claim. Nevertheless, all the contractors have been good except for the dishwasher people. They were terrible. It was also easy to do it online to avoid the whole calling and waiting for someone to assist me. Within less than an hour after I did it, they were already calling me back to schedule an appointment. The only thing I didn’t like was that I made the claim on a Friday and the guy who set the appointment for me said that the technician would be calling me on Sunday evening to give me a timeframe for Monday but I never got a call. So on Monday morning when the technician called for a timeframe, I told him that I didn’t get a timeframe the night before and I was at work at that time. But he actually worked it out with me so that I could make it home on time for him to be there.
A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was the contractor and we had a very good interaction. I just selected plumbing and then they contacted K&S Plumbing who then contacted me to set up a time. They said that they were gonna come out to look at the pipes. They gave me available times when they could come, I told them what worked for me and they sent me a text and an email confirming the time. They called me 20 to 30 minutes before when they were on their way to let me know that they were coming. It was a four-hour window. I work and they gave me a heads-up so I can head home early.
K&S Plumbing came during the week, and they figured out the problem. They had to cut into the wall, but they found the leaky pipe and then they had to come back two days later with the part to fix it because they didn't have the part the first time. I call AHS whenever I submit claims because I have a specific service provider in mind for those kinds of calls that knows our property and that we’ve worked with for years through AHS. I always check with whoever the representative is at AHS if that provider is still on their list of providers, and if that’s the one, I definitely wanna have the thing assigned to us no matter how long it takes for the assignment.
A1 Quality Care is the only one I would ever wanna deal with when it comes to air conditioning units and furnaces. They are fantastic and professional. The same thing goes with Kaiser Plumbing. We’ve worked with Ed for a number of years on a lot of different problems. We even call him if AHS doesn’t cover a particular thing. He is also very professional and very thorough. I wouldn’t wanna deal with anybody else. We’re very pleased with the coverage we have for the price that we pay. We are in the process of buying a new home that is being built for us and once the builder’s warranty is gone, we will sign up again with AHS. I recommend this company.

There was a problem with the heat pump on our pool and we submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. We have an automatic feeder that feeds chemicals into our pool. It does it all itself and we don’t have to do anything. We put the chemicals in the tube and when it gets down below a certain point, we put water in. It keeps track of everything and we don’t have to worry about it. The guy that AHS sent out told us that this feeder broke because it was over chlorinated. However, this was impossible when it was set for automatic chlorination. They sent the second guy out and I’m like, “No way.” We looked up the brand for this heat pump and it seemed that two years is the max you can get out of the heat pumps which is the problem that this heat pump has. It was not due to over chlorination but AHS was not gonna cover it because they were saying that it was over chlorinated.
We have been waiting for ten days for AHS to get in contact with us but we had to call them because we hadn't heard anything. They told us that we would be getting a letter in the mail that they were not gonna cover it. They were very rude and told me that they were not gonna cover it because of the chemical damage. So, I asked why I had to call them four days later to get the answer. If they were gonna deny me, a courtesy call would've been nice instead of sending a letter in the mail. It was unacceptable and we still haven't gotten the letter in the mail. AHS did not care that they took my $125 and they did not care that I pay them the $80 a month for the policy. All they said was that it was not normal wear and tear and that they were not covering it. We’ve had American Home Shield for 10 years now for that house. For the most part, they’ve been great, but this time, it was absolutely, totally bad customer service.

I was told by another heating and AC company that I had a gas leak and they showed me pictures of it. I guess they had sprayed something on my pipe showing that bubbles had shown up and said that it was clearly a gas leak. They said they couldn't fix it and they turned my gas off because they don't need an explosion in my house. They also said that I couldn't continue with the unit. So, we were going into 30 degrees in my whole upstairs because the gas is off and we didn't have any heat there. My entire unit upstairs is where my children slept in so I got them downstairs and I had electric heaters going to keep them warm. I then contacted American Home Shield and they sent Air Technical out.
When the Air Technical guy came out the next day, it wasn't what the other company said. He said that the unit just needed to be tightened down. I also went up to the attic and he showed me everything. He sprayed everywhere and said that if there was gas, then we would see bubbles. But we saw nothing and then I knew what I was looking for. He told me that the unit might be old but they're still working and so he turned the gas back on. Before he left, he told me that I could turn the heat back on and that would be fine. I've been with the other company for about 5 years and I was really disappointed they did that to me. They've been trying to get me to get rid of my unit for 3 years now but what they did the last time was scary. Then from the time Air Technical came out, we've been perfect. They came out to look at it and scheduled to come back after they got all the things they needed. They fixed the pipe and they also had to cut the ceiling out but there was drywall. AHS sent another guy and he was excellent as well. There was a day breached but it was very quick.
Once we realized that there was a leak, we couldn't use the master bathroom. I was inconvenienced in the fact that I was unable to use it but the techs were quick about getting it all repaired. Although I had two holes in the ceiling, I can use the bathroom after the plumbing part was fixed. The service has been great. The warranty more than paid for itself every year and whenever I had problems, I didn't hesitate to call out and got them repaired.

Our washing machine was not operating. I submitted a claim to AHS by phone and had a wonderful experience with their rep. Their contractor came out within two days and he was very professional. He knew exactly what was wrong. Other people should join up with American Home Shield. This was my first experience with them and they were phenomenal.

I like American Home Shield. They do what they say they’re gonna do and they insure what they say they’re gonna insure. I recently filed a claim for the pressure relief valve of my hot water pump since there was some water coming out of the relief and there was too much water on the outside. The process was smooth and convenient. I was connected to Van Allen and they changed the pressure relief valve. And, it works fine.

We have an older house. We had leaky faucets and toilets. Some were running and I couldn't put them on because the flushing apparatus didn't work. We also had a leaking water heater. To submit claims, we generally call and speak to AHS. We have had a few difficulties from time to time, mostly being that it sometimes takes a while for someone to get to us.
Before we got the last contractor, Plumb Rite, AHS sent out another company which was 1st Call Plumbing and I ended up not having them do the job. AHS needs to get rid of them. The plumber came at the limit of his scheduled time. The first time, it was between 2:00 to 5:00 and he came really late. He walked around and looked at everything. His whole manner was lackadaisical and didn't seem to care. He explained that the new water heater was not gonna be the same size and he had to cut the pipes to redo them.
I contacted AHS and was told that there was a certain amount of work that had to be done and I had to pay for it. The plumber was supposed to come. I was scheduled for between 2:00 and 5:00. By 2:30, I hadn't heard from him, so I called him. He said that he couldn't get here because he was doing other stuff. I tried to be understanding and asked if could come the following day. He said no and that he has other people scheduled. I said, “Excuse me? You didn't come to me during my scheduled time and now, you’re accepting other schedules that are pushing me back?” I was mad. I called their office and of course, they’re the kind of office that doesn't have a person that answers. I could only leave a message.
I left several messages and I was quite irate. I called AHS and let them know what was going on. The lady called me back and said to call the plumber because he was waiting to hear from me if he could come tonight. I called him and he said that they were not coming out and doing the job at all. Apparently, a lot of the work Plumb Rite does is to fix 1st Call’s errors. Still, we had no real major problems. Plumb Rite of East Tennessee was very nice, easy to deal with, and friendly. The contractor, Jeremy, was polite and very nice too. They also have a nice lady that always answers the phone.

The dishwasher was not working and the water was staying in it. Usually, I submit claims with American Home Shield over the phone because it’s easier. For the dishwasher repair, AHS sent out the contractor, AAA Appliance Heating & Cooling. The tech cleared the dishwasher up and it has been fine since the repair. But AHS has to speed up their service a little bit more between the phone call and the contractor calling to schedule an appointment. At this point, it usually takes 24 hours and that’s a little long. Nevertheless, except for one, the contractors that AHS sent out have all been fine.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for my fridge. The ice maker wasn’t working and the temperature in the fridge had gotten lowered so it froze up. AHS sent the contractor, Bradley Appliance. The tech that came out was very good, helpful and friendly. He knew what he was doing and he got the problem fixed. The first time, I submitted the claim for the ice maker online, but the second time I called to get in touch with AHS because the water dispenser wasn’t working. The tech came out again. The filter needed to be replaced so that was done.

Several of our exterior outlets did not work and submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield was easy. Their website was pretty friendly. I did it within a couple of minutes and then I got a call from Light It Up within an hour after submitting my service request. We agreed to a date and time through the following Monday. The contractor who came was very knowledgeable, professional and thorough. The job didn't take very long and so far, everything is functioning.

I like to do the claims submission online and on this go around, GE Appliance came out. The guy was great. I was impressed with his professionalism and his thoroughness. An old refrigerator wasn't cooling and we had to go get a refrigerator, which they didn’t have in stock. It also took about five days because he had to submit it and then go around. Nonetheless, the experience was very good. We’ve got it all done now except for the payment.

There was a slow leak in the shower but it took over time for us to realize that the shower head was leaking. We would clean it and dry it, and put a dry paper towel at the bottom on the floor of the shower. My husband called American Home Shield to file a claim. He was pleased that they put it in motion, and then we received an email about when it was scheduled. Then the contractor that came out was very professional. He arrived on time and completed the repair on the same day. He fixed the leak in the shower, and since then, it has been fine.

I've been having problems with my toilet system, they have sent contractors out to my home the last four months to repair the problem instead of fixing the problem. So I called today to speak with a supervisor, the supposedly professional on the other end said there is no supervisor or manager available and hung up the phone. LoL, yeah I know... Unbelievable right. So I call back and finally I get a hold of someone with somewhat professional attitude and she says in her notes that they denied coverage for the problem. So I said, "Thank you and have a nice day." I WILL NOT RENEW MY INSURANCE THROUGH THIS FRAUDULENT COMPANY and I will let everyone I know, even on my social media accounts that what they are... In my mind and thoughts... Crooks

I have been a member of AHS for quite some time. In the beginning they were terrible in terms of having contractors in local areas so it could take as much as two weeks to get someone to my home. It is still hit or miss. Contractors at times have to jump through hoops to get contract covered items paid for. More importantly, DON'T submit too many claims for the covered property for which you're paying. No one can predict what will go wrong however if AHS deems you've had too many service requests THEY WILL REFUSE TO RENEW YOUR CONTRACT. No explanation. Just a form letter saying you won't be renewed!!! Really? I could have sworn that I purchased this plan to be safe from unforeseen repair costs.

As a Realtor/and current customer I am not happy. The service call originally started out good. I had a slab leak, Called A.H.S. Leak detector came out to verify, plumber came out to fix leak, estimated cost $1575 to fix. I pay &1000 out of pocket, A.H.S. paid $575. The next day I have another leak in same area. I call A.H.S, the leak detector guy comes out, yes a leak. Plumber shows up, looks at leak in same area and says different pipe (though it was right next to one fixed). I asked the plumber why he put the old cement in the hole as fill of previous leak. He and assistant talk secretly, in out of house. The new leak was in the spot the cement was resting.
The plumber comes back in house and says this time he will "ONLY CHARGE ME $400 for the EXACT same job as previous". I pay the plumber out of pocket. I CALL A.H.S to ask about getting reimbursed. I am told there is no record of second leak. I have called a dozen times to get answers but either hung up on or have a wait time of over an hour. I am waiting for a callback, 5x now, and no person reaching out. I have guided people to A.H.S. since my past 10 years with A.H.S. has been good, but, now something is NOT right with this situation. To REIMBURSE or not REIMBURSE, that is the question. I am not naming plumbing Co. till I get answers. You can find me on other Social Networking sites.

I started my claim on January 21. A technician came out from d & something repair on Tuesday the 22. Said they needed a part. Ordered it and it took 2 more weeks to get them to get it put in. They scheduled with me on Feb 15 which they never showed up. Scheduled to come Saturday since I complained to American Home Shield company they were 2 hours late came in with a bad part and said another one needed to be ordered. Called American Home Shield and they said they have to talk to the technician before they would do anything and here I am a month later and I still have no dishwasher. If this would have happened without the home warranty I would have gotten my handyman who actually scheduled after work and weekend and this would have been done 3 weeks ago. Don’t buy this policy. It is a waste of time and money.

In Sept 2018 I took out a home warranty on a property I was renting out. I was planning to sell the property and specifically asked if I could cancel the warranty any time. Per my personal notes regarding that phone conversation, the rep told me that I could cancel or change payment and coverage options any time. This is apparently a lie!
As of Feb. 11, 2019 I have sold the property and need to cancel my warranty. I can find no way on the website to cancel, or to stop the automatic payments. I phoned several different numbers and was shuffled around and around, getting no help. Someone was supposed to phone me two days ago from their "Retention Department," but I have received no call. I certainly do not want to be "retained!"
I have just written and mailed a complaint letter. We'll see if I get any response at all. Meanwhile, they will bill me for March soon! I am quite MAD about all of this! I will contact my credit card company and ask them to block any more auto payments. I was considering taking out a home warranty with them for the home I live in, but certainly will not be doing that now. This company may be reputable and have good services (which I never needed to use), but their customer service is a zero! Steer clear of them if you think you might need to change your options ever. You will get NO help!

It’s valuable to have a warranty on one’s property because they take care of the cost. Recently, the pilot on my water heater wouldn’t stay lit. I filed a claim for it online via their user-friendly website. A contractor was dispatched in 3 days. Everything has been performing fine since he left.

The control panel on the door of the refrigerator-freezer was not operating correctly, and the water option wouldn’t select. Also, the icemaker would not go through the dispenser there on the door, we had to open the drawer for the freezer to get ice on it. I talked on the phone with somebody. So, they came out and the guy was very professional and nice. We have animals in the house and they didn’t bother him at all, with him being around. He rather seemed to enjoy them. I'd have him here again in a heartbeat. He was wonderful, and he knew what he was doing, which was really good. He identified the issue and ordered parts. Once the parts came in, they sent him back out and he fixed it and that was great.

We made a claim to AHS for our washer and got pretty good service. The technician gave me the call ahead to give me time to get ready. He was punctual, he did his work, and he cleaned up after. I was happy with the service and the result. Technicians also came back for our range. They were able to fix both appliances and there was no issue after that.
When I had a leak from the kitchen and it was going down to the basement, I called American Home Shield and scheduled a repair. AHS sent out PD Plumbing and I asked PD to give me a call 30 minutes ahead so I can be home. I got a call and I was ready to go home. But the next thing I knew I was told that I only had 15 minutes to come over. After that, the technicians were going away and that I would have to reschedule. That was pretty surprising. I called back American Home Shield and tried to reschedule the service. American Home Shield said they put the rescheduling to the system and that PD Plumbing was supposed to give me a call to schedule the repair. But I never got a call up to now, since Monday.
I usually call in my claims since I like to call. American Home Shield's customer service has been good so far. I’ve been with them for years now and that’s the reason why I’m still with them. But their customer service closes a little bit early - if not 6:00, probably 7:00. I really wish that their customer service would open until a little bit late. Some people go to work and when they get off work, that’s when they’d do calls for issues.

We had two heating units that weren’t working. They weren’t even coming on. We filed our claim with American Home Shield and they sent out Roy Mechanical. They have been exceptional and we’ve been very pleased. We had an issue with the motherboard on the unit, and the tech came and determined what needed to be done and was very courteous. So, I actually requested him when I made the call about the two units that weren’t functioning. My way of filing claims to American Home Shield depends on the nature of the problem. I’ll go online and do a service request, or sometimes, I’ll call them like in the case when there were two units. Online, you can only really indicate one issue. So, I wanted to make sure they were aware that there were two units.
My latest claim is still in the authorization process. There were two parts needed. And so, they were trying to determine whether they would cover both parts for both units and then any of the duct work, electrical, and those kinds of things that needed to go along with it. AHS approved the claim, and then they came back and decided they weren’t gonna do both. They decided that the home may be too big. They had checked it out on Zillow, and it was more than 10,000 square feet on the real estate site. So, I had to send them the auditor’s formal appraisal and the auditor’s property fact sheet to show that it was not that large of a house. So, they reinstated the coverage, so we’re back in the authorization process. Normally, they’re very responsive and we’ve been very pleased so far. It just took up some time, and they probably needed to do due diligence. But they should have probably used the auditor's official square footage and not some real estate site.

My tenant who is living in my house said that my hot water heater was overflowing in the drip pan. I went online and made the request to American Home Shield and paid my $75. The tech from Bissett went to the house and tested it. He determined that I needed a new water heater. Because of the new water heater, he was bound to do some modifications to my pipes which wouldn't be covered by American Home Shield. So, I had to pay an additional $85.
Thereafter, I got a notification from American Home Shield that the same tech was coming out. When he was coming out, I got another email saying that he'd be arriving within a certain timeframe. He did and made the necessary modifications and inserted a new water heater. AHS' warranty is an asset I'm glad I have. However, if they can cover fences, that would be great. My fence had some malfunction and I had to pay out of the pocket.
I'd recommend AHS's warranty to other people. I've told my friend who was having problems with bathroom pipes leaking about my two experiences with AHS and how much money I've saved. He looked at AHS and eventually I saw him talking to his wife about it and then his wife started to ask me about the warranty. Though before I was paying AHS $48 a month and now I'm paying $53 a month, I'll take that any day for the money that they save me. They have saved me so much money and I definitely appreciate them.
