We normally file claims with American Home Shield online and it is an easy process. And then we get a response in regards to when a contractor will be out to do the service within 24 hours.

I had a re-key scheduled through American Home Shield (AHS). The technician, Michael from Realty Rekey LLC showed up on 3/3/2019 and did not have all of his tools. He said he would be back tomorrow. We then texted back and forth up to 3/8/2019 each time the technician cancelling or phoning me past business hours. His excuses ranged from "something coming up" to it being a "hectic week". This is not my problem. I hope I can show the text messages as it just shows how horrible and poor the customer service was. When I spoke with an AHS representative asking to cancel him and send someone new after he bailed on me the second time, I was told that couldn't be done.

I was told since this was the first time I made them aware of the situation, I had to wait again. Wait again until he cancelled again, which he ultimately did four times in total. I told the representative I can send them the text messages showing how unprofessional the technician was but they said it was not necessary, just give him another chance. When I called AHS to demand a new technician that day they said their dispatch was very busy and it might not happen today, 3/8/2019. Thank you American Home Shield for not standing by your customers.

We called AHS to report a leaking water valve on 3/5/2019. The first thing they said is they would charge us for service. As of today, 3/8/2019, we have not had anyone fix the problem. The 1st plumber said they couldn't come out because of rain-it wasn't raining! So, we called AHS and they wouldn't deal with our concern, telling us to work with the assigned plumber. In the meantime, waters is pouring out! AHS call center is not equipped to help resolve these problems either.

We have had to deal with AHS for 2 issues: 1. Washer. 2. Garage door. Let me start by saying that their support is one of the worst ever! They never ever pick up the call and chat is as slow as one can imagine. Horrible experience to start with. 1. Washer - When we called in to complain about our washer, it took us 7 calls to reach a specialist. When we explained them our issue, they assigned MAJOR HOME APPLIANCE to perform the repair. The specialist came to our home, and was very rude. When we asked him what the issue was, he said, "Let me do my job and you won't even understand, so don't bother asking." He mentioned a part needs replacement and ordered it. Next time he came, he replaced it and left, without even explaining us the issue.

After 2 days, the washer stopped working again so we had to deal with AHS again! Called them multiple times but nothing helped. Finally, we got ahold of someone from chat option and after arguing with them for more than 10 hours, they assigned another company - NANA SERVICES. These guys are awesome as they came home within a day and were kind enough to explain us the issue. Not to forget, they mentioned the 1st company replaced the wrong part! They also offered to talk to AHS and tell them that repairing would be most costlier than the new machine. They agreed AHS only thinks of replacement of parts and nothing in regards to customer satisfaction.

    2. Garage door - Unfortunately, our garage door stopped working after a few days of washer issue. We tried to chat a few times and finally got hold of a specialist. They assigned ACE's GARAGE DOOR REPAIR AND INSTALLATION. The person came to check out our garage door and mentioned that he would need to change the whole assembly of garage (drums, spring, bearings, etc.). He told us he would charge $1500. To his surprise, we had already called in 3 other companies and got a quote on the issue.

All 3 companies mentioned issue was with drums and spring bearing only, and it would cost around $175! When we told this to the person from ACES, he said, "Okay I will repair for $300." We were like, "Why did you even lie in 1st place." He gave crap reason that I thought issue is with motor and the assembly. We then told him, "We don't want you to work on this" so he left and told his company that we agreed to order bearings and a few other parts, which we never ever did! When we called them to complain, they apologized and would make sure that our garage door gets repaired without unnecessary charges. The person was supposed to come again at 8 am but came at 3 pm! When he came, he mentioned he will only repair the spring bearings which need dis-assembly of many things. When we told him we know the issue and there is no need for dis-assemble, he said, "I don't want to work for you" and left.

We then contacted AHS again and they didn't even agree to re-assign to another company. All they do is assign the issue to a crap company and then the problem is all ours. I would highly recommend going against these guys as it's a huge hassle and waste of time as well as money! I genuinely hope people ready my review so that you don't have to go through the same ** as we did.

We own a couple of homes and we have American Home Shield warranties. When our rental house in California had an electrical problem, they sent Unified Contractors and the timing was very slow. Half of the house was without electricity and there is a pregnant lady in that house. I don’t know how uncomfortable that made her life but they waited a week or so for the contractor to get there. That took too long in my opinion. It seemed that American Home Shield could not find a local technician. Meanwhile, I know that there’s an HVAC school one town away, so I can’t understand why they couldn’t find a contractor. It was an electrical issue and I was assuming that HVAC system is related to electrical work.

Then, I got a text and I was told at first that the contractors would be there within 48 hours. The next thing I received is a text message saying that they would be out. I assumed they were gonna be out there within the next day so I told my tenants that. That was Friday but it was the following week that they got there. So, it was poor communication or miscommunication and they were very slow to react.

There are pros and cons on both processes of submitting claims to American Home Shield, and I like doing it over the phone more. There's a paper trail when it's done online. But customer service wise, it might be better talking to somebody on the phone and at least taking generic answers. The representatives have been great but the service providers are the ones that are in question. For example, I’ve had at least 10 issues come out to repair my refrigerator and every time somebody shuts my refrigerator, I’ve had spare parts. So, I literally started collecting my parts from my refrigerator. I’ve also had American Home Shield send someone out for my stove once.

For the most, it seems like I ended up with spare parts and not like, “Oh, we took a part out. We replaced it with a new part.” Hence, I have the spare part and that are more like extra parts. It's the kind of deal which is “You don’t need this anymore.” One guy communicated that it’s just unnecessary but a couple of times, I just found pieces when they left. And worst, I’m paying for the services to come out and they’re not even depiction for one of the problems that I’m having, which is vacuum seal. So, I’m not a very happy customer. Overall, while I would rate the technicians low, the concept of American Home Shield is great. It’s awesome to have that comfort.

The user-friendliness of the American Home Shield's website is fine overall and I had an easy experience submitting a claim online. However, I didn't have any expectation on when a contractor would be out until I spoke with Joe's Mechanical. I have a very old heat pump unit and there was a series of things. The first thing that we had Joe's Mechanical come out and do under American Home Shield's behalf was placing a hard start kit. The dual run capacitor wasn't enough to actually keep the compressor running. They came out and took care of that. They were great and I had a very good experience with them. Then we later found out that there was Freon leak that was what really pushed it over the edge. They said it was a big enough issue that an upgrade is warranted. Once I got linked up with the upgrade department, everything was very smooth. Overall performance of the heat pump is now outstanding.

American Home Shield has been generous and we got a lot of value out of the warranty. The fact that we now have a brand new, efficient unit that's heating and cooling our home is just priceless, especially considering the price that we paid for it. So if you're buying a new home, I couldn't recommend going through American Home Shield enough.

I booked a claim online and arranged a visit on the American Home Shield website. I’ve had claims before and I was able to check off the right boxes. Everything went smoothly. My furnace wasn't getting hot and it was intermittent, and I restarted it and it worked for a little while but then it didn’t. Stellar Heating & Cooling called and made an appointment. The tech was able to come the same day and he was able to fix it. He also called back to make sure the furnace is working. Both times, the tech that came out was very nice and he was able to come in a very reasonable amount of time. I was satisfied with the service.

American Home Shield has been great. Every time we call, they answer our questions and get us through our issues. We recently filed a claim after waking up with a flooded basement. The boiler was pressurized and dumped a bunch of water all over my floor for hours on end while we were sleeping. AHS got someone out in about 24 hours, and the guy was great. He definitely knew what he was doing. He was very experienced and knowledgeable. He got everything fixed as fast as he could and got us back up and running. He also pointed out a couple of things maintenance-wise for us. I didn't have an inline oil filter, so he said I gotta change the screen and do all the efficiency testing. I had him back out last Friday on my own dime to do the whole PM on the boiler. I was very happy with him.

I’ve had very good experience with American Home Shield. I’m very satisfied. My most recent claim was for a washer and dryer that we have in a condominium that we just purchased. I submitted it online and their website was very user-friendly. They said I would receive a phone call within 24 hours and I did. The workman was very nice and professional. The dryer is running okay now, but there’s still a problem with the washer. He said it was working, and we checked it. We tried it a little later, and it still wasn’t working. I notified them immediately and I’m still waiting for a callback.

The pipe where my washing machine goes into for the drainage was clogged and I couldn't do my laundry. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and NW Sundance Services came. The guy was great. He put a snake in there then we ran the washing machine and everything was drained. He was here less than half an hour.

I bought a new home and the seller included a one-year warranty with American Home Shield. I got it through my Realtor and she said that they always have this. She likes to add a warranty, which is great. But as a buyer, you're not told what that entails, that you have to pay a $75 service charge with it every time you use it. I think it needs to be explained every time when signing up. To me, having a warranty is not having to pay for anything.

There was a leak in the plumbing underneath our sink. We filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. There’s always a long wait time, like at least 30 minutes. But once I got through the process was pretty simple and easy. The first guy was very professional. The second guy that actually put the part in, was very quiet, but he did excellent work. Everything’s working okay.

AHS usually has someone come out and fix things right away. With the air conditioner guys that I had last year, I like one company more than the other. They were good to resolve any issues. I had an issue with the first company. The guy had said, “Okay, we’ll call you back in one or two days.” But they never called back and I didn’t like that. Right there over the phone, this girl called them and resolved everything beautifully.

The water heater wasn't getting hot. After one or two people took a shower, the water would be cold. It would take at least two hours to warm back up. I called the automatic number and put in a claim with AHS. The interaction with the rep was good. The tech came out the next day. He came right in and started fixing the heater. He flushed it out, and he had to fix some part on it. After the repair, everything has been good. In some instances, having a warranty is okay, but sometimes, it's not because it seems that a lot of stuff isn't covered. Even so, American Home Shield is good for beginning home buyers.

Have been paying AHS for more than 2 years. 6 Months ago the Dishwasher broke and the company came and ordered parts took 2 weeks to get parts and 1 week to schedule and install. Ended up doing dishes with hand for a month. This happened twice. Whenever dishwasher breaks it's more than 2 weeks to order parts and fix.

In peak winter furnace stopped working Jan 26, it took 3 different contractors and 6 weeks to figure out the problem by contractors. Last 6 weeks we suffered through hell at home without heat, with 3 and 8 year old kids at home. At last the last contractor figured that furnace needs to replaced and it's bad. When called the contractor to fix... I was asked to pay more than 2k to fix the furnace while other contractors were ok to install it for me next day for the same price... Instead of waiting another week as the contractor would not schedule until AHS orders and the furnace arrives at their place. I choose to install the furnace with 3rd party contractor. It sucks to say but please don't cheat customers saying AHS can save paycheck. When time comes... Drain their pockets. Everything I said above is my experience. Chicago is 15 degrees. Have 3 year old and 8 year old kids suffered through peak winter.

My hot water tank leaked unknowingly soaking 2 bedroom walls & carpet. I called AHS about 7 pm that Wed. night. They gave me the name of the company that was to respond within 48 hrs. I was called a day later, tech came the following day to look at it only, said we would be up and running by Tuesday (7 days later). I found this unacceptable so I called AHS back and was told the tech has not completed his notes to them yet. A day later I called AHS again only to find out the tech said there were modifications that needed to be done and AHS wanted me to pay and ADDITIONAL $395. I have now been without hot water for 4 days. I requested a cash out option. I was not happy with the tech that came out so I hired my own plumbers to do the work.

3 weeks later I still have not heard back from AHS so I called today only to find out my request for my cash out option was not filed, and had to refiled my request a second time. I finally received a phone call from them telling me my options, I could pay the additional $395 or submit my bill to them to receive a $361 check for a $900 water heater. I was told they do not pay retail, only wholesale. I explained to her that I was without hot water for 4 days and they were not in any hurry to speed this along, never mind covering the damage the water leakage caused to my home. HORRIBLE Plumbers they sent me, and HORRIBLE Customer service from AHS, and HORRIBLE pay out for their screw up. I was considering renewing my contract but after this experience I will never do business with them again. They have gotten their last dollar from me.

One day, my wife had pressed the garage door and it went halfway up to stop. I came out to take a look at it and the chain was loose and hanging down. We found the sprocket on the floor and apparently, the shaft of the drive sprocket on the garage door opener itself had worn down and snapped off. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield over the phone and my experience with their rep has been nothing but pleasant. Their contractor, Edelen Door & Windows, came out and replaced the shaft of the drive sprocket, put it back in and everything worked fine. They did it quickly and professionally. They were excellent. I'm very happy with their performance. It's been a good experience. I've had The Appliance Guys for a refrigerator and they've been excellent as well. They were professional, courteous and very knowledgeable.

We have American Home Shield for a couple of years now. I've had two other home warranty that I've been unhappy with. I have top line appliances. For instance, my refrigerator is $8,000. They would only give me $500 if it went out on me and couldn't be repaired. I changed to American Home Shield because they understand and they know that I have topnotch appliances. They may not cover the entire cost, but they cover a lot more than any other home warranty that I've talked to.

I had an issue with my garage door. The door would go up and it would stop. And then, it would start to slide down again. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the tech was out the next day. He came in and set up his ladder. He was looking for the control or switch up in the unit itself that prevents the garage door from sliding back down. He readjusted some stuff and had me hit the button to try and open and close it, and it was fixed.

However, I’m a little upset with AHS right now. It has to do with the pool heater. A specific policy was purchased by the sellers of our home before we bought it. Part of why we bought this home was because they were gonna add the AHS warranty to cover the pool heater. It is not working now. AHS sent out their repairman to diagnose it and to fix it or have it replaced. That gentleman said it needs to be replaced.

AHS has now come back and said they don’t cover this type of pool heater. We bought this house and spent $600,000 in part because AHS was to cover the heater. AHS has misread the contract having to do with heat pump pool heaters and they have incorrectly applied the provisions of the policy. I have asked them now since they’ve denied the claim, to provide me with a write-up because I’m gonna sue them or I’m gonna arbitrate against them, having to do with this. They blew the policy and didn’t interpret it correctly. The garage repair person was fine but I am very dissatisfied with the product that AHS offers and their ability to do their job. They need to be reported to the state insurance commissioner. Their business practices are deceptive and fraudulent.

There was a loud humming noise coming from my heat pump and I wasn't sure what it was. When I went out and looked, the fan wasn't moving. I went online and filed a claim to American Home Shield. The claims process was very simple. I could do it anywhere because I have a cellphone. The contractor that came out from JG Mechanical was polite and very knowledgeable. He gave me a call the night before and told me he'd come out in the morning if that was okay and I agreed. He came out at 8:30. He went around back, took a look at it and evaluated the situation, and told me he needed to replace the fan motor.

He was trying to get back that day, but we had a snowstorm. He contacted me within four hours and told me he'd have to come out the next day because of the storm. He came out the following morning around 11:00 and took care of my heat pump in two and a half hours. He was a nice guy and I was very happy. I just filed another claim and I had a GE technician came out today to fix the dryer. He couldn't have been nicer, and also very knowledgeable. I have been having good experiences with the coverage and the people that AHS has been sending out. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to other people.

We're having problems with our cooktop oven. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield over the phone was very easy. Their response was very timely and the contractor they sent out was very professional, but he wasn’t able to fix it. The unit has to be replaced and that process has been horrible. They said they would replace it and they would give me prices on other appliances and I sent the model numbers. I’ve got an email and phone calls to them and I’ve got nothing back. We’re still sitting with a broken stove. You just can’t get AHS to call you back.

I previously had AHS with another house that I owned in the past then I added it on the newly built that I bought. Recently, our compressor kept coming on and going off. I Googled it and it said that wasn't normal so I contacted AHS and it was my first time having them to come out and fix anything. They sent Air Smith Pro out and the technician told me it was some valve that had gone wrong on the unit. He had to order it in for it to be replaced but he was able to put my heat on emergency heating so I could continue to be warm in here.

When the technician came back to fix it a week later, he said that he was sorry that the company quoted me a price for another house. They told me it would cost $1,500 and that was what they provided American Home Shield. The company said that I needed a certain refrigerant and the tech said that the one in my unit is the updated one. They also said I needed some kind of locking cap that was gonna cost me $150 and that's code in our area. Come to find out, I already have the locking cap on my system. It turned out that it only cost me $800 and that was a tremendous difference to be getting wrong. He was very professional and I appreciated all his help in telling me that they quoted me the wrong price. Overall, I'll recommend AHS.

So far, I've been pleased with my experience with American Home Shield. Among their contractors, Choice Electric is one that I've dealt with a couple of different times and their technician has been very good. When the compressor of our heat pump went out, he had to replace it. But it was down for about a month and a half because when the compressor was sent, not all of the right parts were sent so we ended up reordering some other parts for it. But other than having to wait for parts to come in, he did a fine job. Besides, the delivery of the parts wasn’t his issue.

American Home Shield sent a contractor out here before because I replaced the water heater. Then, it started leaking but it wasn’t the heater itself. It was at the top, some sort of connection that was overflowing and they fixed that. I’ve been with American Home Shield for around a year now and so far it has been worth the money. The people that they've been sending have been very professional, personable and efficient. They called, came and responded. They checked and they answered all of my questions.

I normally submit my claims with American Home Shield by phone, however, the hold times are long. And when I try to do it online, it keeps telling me to call. It takes me through the steps, but I have not been able to use it to submit anything. The website could be a little more user-friendly. I submitted a claim for my washer. Every time it gets through a spin cycle, I would have to go out and stop the cycle and then turn the machine off and shift it over to a spin and rinse cycle for it to drain the water out of the clothes. AHS sent Sears out about two months before because the washer was doing that, but they couldn't find the issue. The issue wouldn't repeat when the guy was there. But after a couple of months, whatever was wrong became evident and it showed up when the technician was there.

I've had two contractors come out. They called me as I was promised before they came. They were considerate, timely and they communicated with me what they were doing. The one who couldn't find the issue stayed a while and ran a couple of cycles and when he couldn't get the washer to duplicate itself, he reminded me that the coverage was good for that particular service call for 60 days and if I had the problem to repeat, I could contact them again, which I did. We missed the second technician the first time. He had called us and he waited a bit if we would get home timely, but my husband didn't make it and we had to reschedule it. The reschedule went fine and he was able to find the issue with the washer. The machine is being replaced and I've already purchased it. I just need to fax or email AHS the receipt.

Our garage door wouldn’t come down. It would come partway down and go back up. Sometimes, it would come a little further down and then go back up. Sometimes, if I held the button, it might stay down. It was a real nuisance. I called in to submit a claim to American Home Shield. The gentleman that came out from Superior Garage Doors had done some work for us before and we were very pleased with him. He's very personable and professional. He knew exactly what the problem was. My husband said that he replaced the garage door's eyes and worked on some wiring that may have come loose or partially broken.

Sometimes getting ahold of anyone from AHS to speak and ask a question is very hard. Also, I get frustrated once in a while because things that we are under the impression were covered are not and that’s a little disturbing. But when I had an issue with one of their contractors who caused more problems than what he fixed, I called and told AHS not to ever let him in my house again and they never did. American Home Shield's customer service is fine most of the time.

A social media rep from AHS contacted me offering a cashout of $900. I hired a technician, completed the AC changeout and emailed her the receipt. Total cost was just over $4k dollars. I was hoping they would cover at least half.

Took about 10 days to receive payment; impressed. The media rep was excellent.

I could not go any higher than 3 Stars because it took 7 months and a negative online post to energize them.

The technician came by, inspected and left. AHS has been giving me the runaround ever since. In the contract it list that you must attempt arbitration before taking them to court; another $200 just to file it. I will post again if they improve.

Updated on 03/12/2019: I wrote a negative yet very true review on 3/7. I received a prompt response saying that someone from the social media dept would be in touch. Well that has not happened yet. Just more proof of the poor customer service offered by this company!

Original review: Several years ago we had only great service from this company for a property in CA. But the past few years have been terrible. The few times we have called for service, we have had someone come out and after paying our $75 they tell us the repair itself is not covered for whatever reason. So we paid the deductible and then bought a new appliance! Now they raised our monthly fee without any notice. I found this out by looking at my credit card statement.

To make matters even worse, when I called and got nowhere with the customer service agent and asked to speak to a manager I was out on hold forever and gave up after 1 hour. I did this twice so this is standard practice for them. They tell you they will get a manager and then put the phone on hold until you give up and hang up. The customer service agents are like robots who clearly read the set answers they have been given. Save your money and put it towards your new appliance or repair rather than paying for both of them and this ridiculous insurance!

And says the motherboard fried again because they did not turn off the rigged heat the first time. Our electric bill is $250 a month and we have a baby on the way! AHS is fraudulent and will not get back to my hundreds of calls and emails. The 2nd contractor is also trying to charge us $500 plus permits with a new system when all they said what was needed was a new part the second time and now all of a sudden it’s a $500 fix!!! It was possible that there might have been a slight leak on the top of it, too. But I didn’t wanna mess with that because there is very severe corrosion on the top pipes where that connection is on top of the water heater, so I called it in with American Home Shield. I did it on a Saturday and I heard something back that Monday. AHS sent Simply Water Heaters who was very informative. They walked me and my wife through things that we needed to do as far as taking care of the new heater and they were prompt as far as getting the old one out and getting the new one in. In about five hours, the service was completed. The whole family makes it through showers with no hiccups now.

We had a leak underneath our kitchen sink, and it was flooding down through the basement ceiling. It was a mess. I called AHS and they asked me for my deductible, and they sent someone out. They asked me to turn the water off to that area, so the damage won’t get any worse, which is only smart to do, and then the tech came right out and fixed it. He had to replace all of the underneath valves. He changed them from the old style to the new style, so it wouldn’t happen again right away. He cleaned it all up and made sure it was working perfectly before he left, and we haven’t had a problem since.

Our HVAC unit was not heating and it was only cooling. So, when we increase the thermostat temperature, the hot air was not coming out, it was always the cold air that seemed to be blowing. I originally called the actual equipment manufacturer and somebody came over and said that they could fix it in 10 minutes but they were charging $150 for the labor and then another $150 for the part. I realized I have some warranty so I called American Home Shield. Their claims process was pretty good and seamless. They said it would cost me $75 as opposed to the $300. The only thing was it took 24 to 48 hours for them to get back to us. It was really cold in Dallas at that point and I wanted some heating to happen, but we had to stay without heat for two days before somebody responded back.

I told American Home Shield exactly what the problem was because we’ve already got it looked at. I told them that they needed to get the circuit breaker to fix it. They listened to the whole thing, but when the tech came, he did not have the circuit breaker. When he came back, he had to place an order, and then get it back. And it took another day. I thought that was weird because I already told them the problem. They should have brought the item with them. But the tech was pretty good. My wife said he was very patient and he did the work well.

My dryer was making a loud grinding noise that I couldn’t even turn the dryer on because it was so intense. American Home Shield sent a cool guy but the first thing that he told me was that the warranty doesn’t cover noise. It didn’t make sense. It was a hum and there was something that was causing that noise. So, he took a part out and he sprayed WD-40 on it. I asked him if he would vacuum the dust and he told me that he wouldn’t. No sooner than he left, the same intense noise started, so I called back and he came. He told me that it was the dryer’s pulley and he replaced it and so far, so good. I asked him though why he didn’t just do it in the first place and he told me that they had to do what was left first. That sounded cheap and wasting my time but other than that, he fixed the dryer.

I had another claim, which was for my icemaker, and I asked the repair place if their team comes out equipped to fix or replace anything. They said that they would come out and diagnose the issue first and then if it’s not broken, then they won’t come back. I don’t like that because I could guarantee that the ice machine doesn’t work and then I would have to call back again and waste more hours. Then they would come out and replace the ice machine mechanism. Their subcontractors do the least that they can and then they’ll come back and that’s way too time-consuming. Now, I’m just waiting for Monday for the technician to come out and look at the icemaker. But, other than that, American Home Shield has got their thing going on. When I called to place a service order, a very thorough and friendly guy got it.

I also paid extra for my pool system which includes the heater, the pump and the filter. Then my heater wasn't working. I thought it was not a big deal because I knew I have insurance and I was covered.

I called American Home Shield and they sent a technician. But the tech cannot come on Friday. We waited until Monday. The gentleman came over and he acted like a doctor. He was just visual. He took the cover out and said it was leaking all over. He said it was beyond repair. He said he had to talk with the insurance and that they would have to decide what have to be done. I asked why it was leaking. He said that it was normal for the units to leak. They overheat at one point and because of the time, the gasket gets out. He said that it's too expensive to be replaced and it's too much money on repairs so they would usually just change it. The unit is about $2,000 for someone to try and change it.

Then, somebody called me around 5 o'clock and told me that I was not covered. Also, they couldn't change the unit because it's what the report says. That is the most bogus thing I have heard in my lifetime. I asked the rep to explain to me but she said, "Well, I don't know how to explain, I'm not the technician, but the report says your water in the pool, the chemical in your water pool was unbalanced." I asked to speak with a supervisor. Twenty minutes later, I was told that the supervisor couldn't take my call and that he would call me later on. Yesterday until now, nobody has called me.

Also, I have a professional company who cleans my pool. So it's totally bogus to tell me the chemical are unbalanced and that the heater broke because of that. I've been in the swimming pool for the past years and if these things happen the way they say, it has to be tremendous. If I get into the water and the chemical is unbalanced to that percentage, my skin has to be burned by now. I pay for my insurance and I want to be responsible. I want to be covered for what I pay, not to pay for something they don't cover. On top of that, I have to pay again to get a second opinion. At this point, it's unspeakable the way how American Home Shield handles business and gives false information to the people.

I called AHS's, got a claim number and paid my $75. Their reps contacted the appliance people and they looked at both appliances. They did great and were very professional. For the oven door that would not close, the contractor replaced the hinge on it which alleviated the problem. While the stove was fixed, the microwave is gonna be replaced. Still, AHS was very prompt in getting us a replacement website and all the value for that. Overall, I had a very good experience with them.

I call American Home Shield to file my claims and they always follow through. The people are thorough and always polite, and they always try to get our problems solved. They schedule the tech to come out and they also schedule deliveries. But I have to do a lot of calling and following up, and the wait time, every time I called was 50 minutes. The wait time is terrible. So, they could have more people answering the phone.

Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield. I had a great experience, and their customer service rectified our problem. I filed a claim for my washer that was totally blasted. The drum had broken loose. The tech told AHS what the problem was, and they said they were gonna get me a new one. And they gave me seven choices to pick out from the washers that were available that they would supply. They also told me that if I wanted to, I could go and get one at a Lowe's or Home Depot and they could give me a certain amount of cash. So, I could've got an even better washer if I had the money.

We used American Home Shield recently for our furnace, and the response was quick. The gentleman that came out initially to look at the problem was very professional. I told him the problem, and he looked at the furnace and said something that would take care of the problem. And true enough, they took care of our problem. He said that they would be out within the next week, and they were out within two days with the part and replaced it. So, I'm very happy with that. We also used them about two years ago when our washer and dryer went out. I have nothing to complain about or else we would no longer have them or we'll not be paying them money anymore. We bought this home about three years ago and the party that was selling it had bought the policy and it worked fine for us. And I would recommend AHS to other people.

I try to go online when I submit my claims to American Home Shield, but it doesn't work a lot of times. When I don't have my contract number, I should be able to put in my address, but it doesn't, and I don't know why. So I have to wind up calling them. Once I get through and talk to a representative, they are always really nice. And if I have an issue, it gets worked on. Everybody there was really helpful and understanding of the situation that I'm going through. Even though I had to wait for the process, they apologized to me and they really tried to make me feel comfortable with the situation that I was going through.

The lock on my oven wasn't working properly. It would show that it was on on the stove, but it really wasn't on. But when the tech came out, he said it was a whole bunch of other stuff going on, which I didn't even know. He said he ordered the parts, and once the parts came in, he would be able to fix the parts. When he came out this last time, he said he got the parts and he tried to put the parts in but it was not repairable. This was because mice got into the oven, and that's not covered under my contract, so it's not gonna get fixed. Even though the stove wasn't covered under the warranty, the tech at least fixed the stove so I could still utilize it until I'm at a place where I can get it replaced. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. They are the best. There's the copay but it is more than worth it because it is so expensive to get appliances repaired.

I signed up my home and rental properties with American Home Shield after my property manager recommended them. Once, one of my five Nest thermostats at home wasn't getting power from the outlet and the whole area got cold. I put in a space heater there, but it blew up the whole circuit. I filed a claim with American Home Shield for the AC and the contractor called me the next day to schedule an appointment. Four days after that, the tech came. He went to our utility room and he figured out that the power line to the thermostat was loose. However, it took him a while to see exactly where it was loose, which ended up being in the basement. He then fixed the issue within 30 minutes. He was very careful, professional, and it was an overall good experience.

This was my first claim with American Home Shield and I was very happy about it. I've been with multiple home warranty companies before and my major complaint about them is that they don't keep an eye on the performance of their contractor network. American Home Shield is doing the right thing by keeping the top-performing contractors in their network. AHS also followed up, sent me text messages informing me of the filing the claim, contact information of the assigned contractor, and appointment reminder. It was really good.

I used to be with Old Republic and I just kinda fell out of liking American Home Shield and their service so I thought I'd give them a try. Recently, I called in to file a claim because the website was not clear as to what I wanted done. It was very generic. But the customer service I got was very good. AAA Brands Appliance came out and the service was handled fine. The guy didn’t find anything wrong. He checked out the inside and the outside, and he didn’t know why the appliance was not cooling like it was supposed to so he checked everything over and then it was working.

If only AHS could fix their website, I won’t have to call in. If it was plumbing, it should have at least toilet or shower in it, but it just said plumbing, ‘cause contractors could come out here and find out it's something that they don’t cover. I've had that happen before and I ended up paying $75 more for them not getting what needed to be done. But the technicians that AHS sends have been very professional. They all seem to find the problem in their diagnosis and get it fixed right away.

I'm pretty happy with American Home Shield. Overall they seem to be professional and pretty organized. Everything ran smoothly. If I reported an issue, they have it addressed in a timely manner. I usually call them to file a claim and it has been a pretty straightforward process. I might be on hold for a couple of minutes. Sometimes I get a person and they file the claim.

When American Home Shield sent out High Priority Plumbing, the plumber forgot several things. There's a cover for the sewage ejection pump, and that cover has a little hole in it where the wire come out, and there's also a cover for the little hole. So we have the big cover and then a cover for the little hole. But the plumber did not put the big cover on securely. The big cover has like 10 screws but he only put the two of them in there, and he didn't really screw them all the way. It was really loose. And then the little hole in the big cover, he didn't put that back. We noticed it because there was an odor coming up from the tank. So, the plumber fell short there.

I called American Home Shield and explained to the rep that the plumber didn't put the thing on right, but he made it seem like they would have to issue a totally new claim. That was the only person that I spoke at American Home Shield who was kinda difficult. But then I called back, spoke to someone else, and she took care of everything. The service has been great overall.

I like the whole American Home Shield, but it's very often hard to get somebody to come over and at the times that are convenient for the customer. If you work, you're really in trouble because none of these guys work on the weekend. The second thing is that I always seem to need an upgrade, and they say it's not supposed to cost me anything. I pay $70 a month, and then, my issue with the heating still costs me $2,700 out of pocket. So, I'm not happy about that. I had an air handler replaced in September, and that cost me $3,000. It's not complete coverage.

Sometimes the contractor don't call me back right away. They're supposed to call you in a 24-hour period, and I've had this experience where they called me randomly, and if I missed them, I couldn't get them afterwards. It was like I was chasing them. It's not conducive to get somebody to come and it's painful. But overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. Everybody should have them, especially if you have an older home.

Reliable is amazing and I love them. I had a leak from the pressure relief valve on my hot water heater. It was full of water that was getting dumped out onto the side of the house. I logged into American Home Shield's portal, it asked what the category of the repair was, then they did everything automatically. It generated a text messaging service once I submitted the claim that says, “Okay, your claim has been submitted, and we are contracting it out.” Then, AHS sent me another claim with the information of who they contracted with the name of the company and the contact information.

Reliable called me back right away and the woman that I spoke with was extremely helpful in working with my work schedule. She made the appointment for a time that was convenient for me and gave me a window. I got regular text message update from American Home Shield giving me the status of the order and the appointments. The plumber called when he was about 15 minutes away to give me a heads-up and came towards the beginning half of the window. He did a quick little assessment, listened to all of my concerns and fixed everything the same day. He serviced my hot water heater and had all the parts needed in the truck. The plumber did a beautiful job.

All of the reviews that I read about American Home Shield echoed the same sentiment that I had, which is that the claims process was really wonderful. They handled everything really great and kept me informed. I was really thrilled with the outcome.

I've been waiting since December to get my heating taken care of but until this day, it still has not been resolved. The heat isn't being evenly distributed. There is no heat coming in to my room at all then there's very little heat coming in to my son’s room. So when I filed the claim in, I wasn’t sure if it was the furnace or the ductwork. I just clicked furnace and duct, and American Home Shield sent somebody out. The guy was great and I thought that he was being open and honest with me. He said I needed a new furnace and he repaired the furnace. He also told me that I needed the ductwork done and that he was gonna put it in his notes that the ductwork is mandatory. But I was charged and I had paid $825. Why did I have to pay the $825 if the problem is still not resolved?

American Home Shield said they were gonna have somebody out for the duct thing. And finally, on the fourth appointment, somebody came out. But American Home Shield denied the claim. I think they said it was because it was improperly installed. I just bought the house back in November and the reason I bought the warranty was in case there is something wrong that I didn’t see when I bought the house. Plus I'm anemic and asthmatic. So during the polar vortex, I couldn’t sleep in my room because it was freezing cold. Now, I'm gonna have to start passing the hospital bill to American Home Shield as well because they told they were gonna take care of this issue but they didn’t.

With the exception of the contractor that just came, the ductwork people were all unprofessional. American Home Shield was sending out mom-and-pop shop type of people. It was not anything where it was like a business. I had one company that called initially and was upset. He told me I probably needed a new furnace and when I told him I just had a new furnace put in, he said, "Well, if you had a new furnace put in, what's the use of me coming out?” I told him he was coming out because he was a ductwork specialist. He said he would be on it but that I should have gotten a furnace through him. That was not even my call. That was American Home Shield's call. Still, the contractor called and set up an appointment. He also called me the day before and on the day of the appointment. But he never showed up.

The second company was a lot more understandable. It was still a family-owned company but the dad had a heart attack. It was the same day that my appointment was supposed to be and the daughter knew that I already had a hard time with the first company that was supposed to come out. She thought he let me down and she was crying when she called me. But I told her to calm down and that it was okay. I told her to just give me a call when her dad was okay.

But American Home Shield ended up reassigning my case to a third duct vendor. That vendor came out, stayed in my house for five minutes then walked through and out of my house. He said he would send in something to American Home Shield but two days later, I still had not heard anything. I called in to American Home Shield and they told me that he still hadn’t sent anything in. So they contacted him to find out what was going on. He sent in the paperwork and then American Home Shield called me back the next day and said that they denied the claim. I asked about it and they said they would send out a person for a second opinion but they were gonna charge me another co-pay. So I've paid three deductibles for the same thing and still, my ductwork is not fixed.

The rep did the job and the technicians came right by the time they said they're gonna come. They had put a new thermostat again. But I complained that it wasn't working right. It would say one thing but when I took the temperature around the house, it would say another thing. I had to turn it up really high before the heat even started even to work. I never had that problem before.

My son was there when the technicians came and he told them what the problem was for me. The thermostat seems like it's a little better but I still have to turn it up a bit. I got a thermostat that is supposed to do the whole house. This thermostat they gave me, when I put it on 75, the whole house still has a chill in it. Now, I have to turn it up way up on 78 or 77 before I feel the warmness start coming out and hold there. It goes from heat to cool really quickly. You say 75 degrees when it comes on 75. It seems like it comes on a few seconds then it goes back off. Other than that, American Home Shield should keep up the excellent work. I'm gonna tell friends that they need to jump on board with them really quickly.

I've had American Home Shield for a long time and I usually got a good response from them when I needed to use them. When my heater was not working, I called late one evening, and the following day they sent somebody from A & R Complete. He was here in good time and went right to work after I explained that the heater would try to kick in but the blower never did put out. He diagnosed it, replaced the main circuit board, and he was done in no time.

There was one time where I had to replace my own water heater. It was an emergency and I never got reimbursed with it because I never got it inspected after the installation, even though I had a licensed plumber install it. The plumber is my neighbor, so he just came over, took the old one out, put the new one in, and everything's up to code. But American Home Shield never wanted to honor that. They said it has to be a legit company. Since I'm not gonna go around their back and get fake papers signed, I let it go.

Other than that, the coverage AHS provides is adequate. They cover all the major things like the refrigerator, the stove, the air conditioner, and the heater. They charge extra to cover a pool, but for the basic things in the household, they do well. Lowering the rates though could be an improvement. And while I've heard stories from friends that American Home Shield sends out unqualified people, everybody that I've ever had has done well.

They sent a second one who came 3 days later. After 5 visits during the summer they said I have to pay $1350 for freon before they can replace the compressor. They however said, "If you pay and in a month or 10 days the compressor broke again because something else is bad with the machine" they will have to charge me another $1350 for new freon. So I said, "Well please check what could be causing the unit to break the compressor." They said they can't as it was impossible to find out.

I called 2 companies and one 3rd expert who told me, "Replacing the compressor is a patch, the unit under the house is rotted and the fan is sticky (bearings) and the dehumidifier in the unit stopped working hence your new compressor will work 24/7 to try and maintain temperature." AHS never diagnosed this, they simply want to replace the compressor and for me to pay $1350 yet they won't warranty the job, story short AHS has not responded and the unit won't cool nor heat as it is an electric heat pump. What can I do?

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for our heating and air conditioning unit as we were having a problem with it. The house is older and so the unit has been refitted. The repair company AHS sent came out thrice and put a new board in. However, the unit eventually fried it in a week. The company then came out and said that the unit needed to be replaced. American Home Shield ordered a unit that met the government's current rules and regulations. The installation people picked up the unit and they were prompt. They kept me well-informed of where they were, what was going on, and when they expected the unit in. Then, as soon as it came in, they came out and installed it. They put a new base on the air conditioner, which was just sitting on blocks before, and had me up and going within a week.

The courtesy of American Home Shield's contact person was always super, as well as their willingness to help me with a problem. We were having a very cold month and we're both disabled here at the house. They knew that we really need some heat and so they got on it and got it turned around quicker than I thought we would. They have also always been very helpful and kept me informed. When the claim had to be sent to another department to get approval, they let me know what was going on and when I should hear back. So I've been very pleased. Also, thank goodness, we had taken American Home Shield's policy out because if not, I would’ve been stuck spending $6,000 and $7,000. I've had the policy for a year now and I've renewed my contract with only a $2 increase. I have recommended American Home Shield to a couple of people who have older homes and have to remodel them.

The pool pump for the main pool started to leak. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and there was a quick response. My parents used American Home Shield before and whenever they called, there was a long waiting time, so it is a lot easier to file the claim online. The contractors came out and replaced the volutes and a couple of other parts. They restored everything and took care of the problem. However, it started leaking again. They didn’t tighten the clamp around it all the way down. They came back out and that fixed the problem. The contractor told me what was going on and how he was gonna solve the issue. He solved it and it also gave me a general idea of how the pump works and why the issue happens. Overall, the experience was good.

My water heater's pilot light went out and won’t relight. I went online and did the request service, and American Home Shield told me who was gonna be calling. Lakeshore Plumbing and Septic called and set up a service. It was on a Friday, and they said they couldn't get through until the next week. But when I said, "I don't wanna go all weekend without hot water," they had an agent here within an hour and a half. They were very accommodating with our hours.

Their guy came in and there was a bad sensor that he was able to reset and relight the pilot light. He was great and it took him less than an hour to do the repair, but he said that not too many of the California hot water heaters have sensors on this part of the state. It's like a gas sensor, and usually the westward people put their hot water heaters outside, and then store within a gasoline next to them, so it shuts off. But he said sometimes the sensors just go bad after it's 10 years old. He was very good, though.

My heater didn’t come on. I called in to American Home Shield and submitted a claim. The customer service reps were fantastic because they tried to get to me as soon as possible. I was really concerned about the heat because it had been so cold and they weren’t able to get someone out that day, but it was the very next day. Somebody online, as I was waiting to turn it in, said to check the pilot if we have a gas thing. Mine is gas, but I went up there to see if there was a pilot on it, but I couldn't find it.

My son-in-law and my daughter were here when the contractor came. They both said he was great. Both of them liked him very much. They said he was very professional when he came out and thought he knew exactly what it was and went up and checked. They really enjoyed him. The contractor said that kind doesn’t have a pilot light. He cleaned the metal off of it, I don’t know whether it had corroded since that happens frequently. It actually worked for him before he even cleaned it off. I have no idea why it didn’t light when I turned it on.

Another thing was that I had someone come out for my washer and I was gonna give this guy a really great review because he handled everything so professionally and methodically that I thought that this was great. I went in to do that and I got company come in the middle of it. When they left, I tried to get back into it and it said I couldn't. I didn’t finish it and I really felt bad because I know it really means a lot to the people that come out. This happened to me a couple of times but I got to talk to someone from American Home Shield when I called in this last time. I told the person that I had contacted about the gas furnace. Now, the gas furnace was an urgent thing because it was getting really cold here. She took all of my information down that I had and she said she’d see to it that guy got credit for it. Overall, I have never been disappointed with AHS and I recommend them to everybody.

There was a leak in our upstairs bathroom. The spigot kept dripping and I couldn't get it to stop no matter how much I tightened it down. It was also happening on the outdoor spigot on the back patio. And so, I put in a request on the American Home Shield portal online for both of those to get fixed. Filing the claim was very easy and self-explanatory. Blue Star Plumbing called the same day and set up the appointment for the next day, and everything was fixed the next day. I had to have my mother meet the technician over there. But they did call me ahead of time and let me know that they'd be here in 25 minutes. So I was able to let my mother know and she was able to go across town and meet him. She said he fixed the leak really quickly and gave a 60-day warranty on the work. They took care of the problem, and everything went really smoothly and I was happy with the result.

I recently filed a claim to American Home Shield for our heater. I did it over the phone and I felt happy interacting with their reps. I contacted AHS through the chat on the website and I guess the rep didn't send the email to the contractor. So, I called because nobody called me back and they haven't received an email from the company. I was told that they will send the email at that time although I already called the contractor because I always use them. They do a really professional and good job. After a couple of days, I had a contractor out in my home and once they got it going, it got authorized really quickly.

It was fixed on a Monday. I've had some bad experiences before with contractors, but since AHS sent these people, it always went well. I was impressed with their professionalism. They were very quick and to the point. They did not try to sell me anything else. Previously, when AHS sent people to check the air conditioner, they would try to sell me a new air conditioner or I should do this or I should do that. They also use like a sheer tactic. This company does none of that. Since the repair, the heater is performing well. I was even showed the parts and what they replaced.

I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield. I had an issue where the furnace was not shutting off and the blower would keep on running. Then when it did shut off, as soon as it shut off, the heat would come back on again. Because it had run so long, it had cooled the house. I submitted the claim over the phone. But I also had a problem earlier that I had called on, for the same thing, and they told me they would be getting ahold of me after the weekend was over. But I couldn't wait. I had this fellow and he went ahead and helped me. It would work but then it would quit working.

So finally, I called American Home Shield again. I let them go ahead, set up the appointment and come over here. I already knew what the problem was and the only way I was gonna get the control box replaced was to get a heating person in here to do it. Altogether, the repair took about an hour and a half. It’s working perfectly now and the technicians were very nice and helpful.

The initial response was very quick and it took about four hours before we got an actual response. However, it took us a week to get the water heater repaired. The service provider that they had locally didn't have an opening for two or three days. We reported on a Friday, but they couldn't even come out to look at it until Tuesday. When they looked at it, they said the heater was gonna have to be replaced, so it took them another three days to get the heater and get back on their schedule to get it out here and get replaced.

The contractors were very professional and very proficient. When they first showed up on the initial visit, they were very quick to diagnose what the problem was. They said the water heater was 20 years old and the heating element had failed and that it needed to be replaced. They got a hold of American Home Shield and got approval for the replacements and to make sure that everything was gonna be covered. And while they were here, the work they did was excellent. The icemaker wasn’t working and there was visible rust in the freezer and refrigerator compartment. Submitting the claim for it online with American Home Shield was fairly easy. Before this, there was a first claim and I had two appliances. We had a power outage and I had a problem submitting for the second appliance. It wasn’t clear to me how to do that, so I called and the person on the phone was very helpful. The icemaker was in a second home and I wasn’t there and when I talked to the tech on the phone, he told me that he did what he said he was gonna do. He didn’t call me to tell me he’d actually done the job though. There had been a snowstorm and he called to tell me that he would do the job at another time but he never called me back to tell me the job was complete. I had to call them in a few days to ask what the status was.

Also, for the rust issue, I had to reach out back to AHS to ask what they came up with? The tech never reported back to me about that issue and I’ve never heard from American Home Shield to tell me about that part of the claim, which I assumed the tech submitted but he kinda gave me his own opinion that it wasn’t something that American Home Shield would cover. There was a gray area there as if the rust would be covered or was covered or non-covered. The follow-through on both the service company, Ken’s Repair Service, and American Home Shield has not been that great. But other than that, we’re happy to have the coverage.

One of the smartest things a homeowner can do is to get American Home Shield. Last week, our icemaker wouldn’t let water out through the ice machine. It was making ice but we weren’t getting water in the glass. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and their contractor came and did whatever he needed to do. He got a hairdryer out and he blew the hairdryer onto the icemaker until it thawed out. It worked great and he left. The guy who came out was very friendly, customer-caring and very intelligent. He knew what he was doing and he did a great job. He explained what he was doing and said that typically, that was the problem with the refrigerators nowadays. Apparently, the icemaker froze because of lack of use. My wife drinks a lot of water and I don’t. So, when she was out of town, it wasn’t being utilized and, therefore, it froze up.

Since then, water was running really quickly and everything was doing great. And then, as my wife was going to bed last night, she realized that the carpet was wet in the bedroom and it was cold water. I told her that I might have spilled something and that we’ll check it in the morning. We went to bed, got up this morning and came out, and the carpet was soaking wet. I went in to the kitchen and stepped on the floor, and the water was coming up through our wooden floor. I pulled the refrigerator out and there was a leak behind the refrigerator, in the waterline that goes into the refrigerator. I can’t drive and my wife is blind so we can't go and replace the waterline. I called American Home Shield and filed a claim. They are supposed to call me and they have not called yet so I shut the waterline off.

We had American Home Shield when we moved into our first home 10 years ago and it has always been very good. We were pleasantly surprised when we purchased this new home and saw that the same warranty company was gonna handle it because they were very helpful the first time we used them. When I submitted claims with AHS, I discovered how easy it was to do it on the web. So, I’ve been doing it on the website where I go and click what the problem is. I usually go and triple check that the problem is covered by our warranty. Once I verify it is, I can go ahead and I can do the submission that way.

When we couldn't get hot water out of our shower, the contractors who came out were super nice. They showed me what the problem was and how they fixed it, and it was an easy fix. They replaced a piece and they had another piece on their car, so I didn't have to go out and buy another one. They were able to repair fairly quickly. They even mentioned that my hot water was a little hot. So, before they left, they took a quick look and made sure they adjusted it. I told them that I have young children and I don't wanna burn them. The contractors were nice enough to take a minute, looked it over, and showed me how to adjust my hot water heater.

I've done submitting claims before with American Home Shield and the process has been easy. Their website is a little slow but it works. My latest claim was a problem with the toilet. With any solid waste, it would not flush properly. The people they have contracted for plumbing have come to my home before and I’m familiar with them. They do a really nice job and come when they’re supposed to. Plus, it’s easy to get an appointment with them. From that standpoint, I couldn’t be happier.

The plumber ran a roto-rooter type of thing and said there were other issues because the toilet has nothing to do with everything beyond that. He also said that AHS would give me a crappy replacement toilet or I could upgrade. I told him to give me something comparable to what was already in there so that was what he did. However, I was disappointed that AHS would not replace the toilet with something comparable. They claimed they were going to put a builder’s grade in, but my plumber said that my builder put in a very good toilet so I paid the difference. I put $300 toilet in then AHS covered $75 of it. The contractor ultimately replaced the toilet.

We have a two-year-old refrigerator that suddenly would not keep anything cold. So we called American Home Shield and reported a claim. They dispatched this BRM outfit and it took them about two weeks to get it fixed because they don't carry parts with them. I'm accustomed to service people coming to your house and having parts with them or they can quickly get one and fix the problem on the same day. This was the first time that I was not sure if the guy was equipped to do the job.

My impression was that he was a little mom-and-pop guy. He wasn't a vendor that carried any sort of inventory although that's unrealistic these days, given the variety of refrigerators and brands then the models within the brand, that he would have every single part in his inventory. I was just disappointed that it took so long to wait for parts and get it fixed. It was a little bit more than annoying to have a refrigerator that didn't work for two weeks. He was a lovely gentleman and a nice man. But I didn't have a level of trust with him. My husband even said that we should have just bitten the bullet and called Sears. They would have had all the parts and the problem would have gotten solved, presumably, on the same day in one visit.

At first, the contractor came and fixed one part that he thought he needed. But then he discovered, while he was replacing that part, that he needed another one. So we had a few more days to wait for him to order that other part. But then the refrigerator stopped working totally. We thought he was all done though, and we went and did our grocery shopping. We spent a few hundred bucks on groceries with the family but when we woke up, everything in the refrigerator was ruined because it had thawed over the night.

That happened on a Saturday morning and he came back out on Monday. But during the weekend, he asked us to unplug, wait for a few minutes then plug the refrigerator back in to reset everything. We did that and that seemed to jumpstart it. Everything was working fine. When he got here, he started looking at the electrical plug. He said that it wasn't grounded and that the white and the black cables weren't reversed. He surmised that there was some issue with the electricity and that we should have an electrician take a look at it. American Home Shield then dispatched State Electric. They came out, did their testing and said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the electricity.

Since we had plugged the refrigerator in on the last weekend, it's been fine. But we are reluctant to go do a big grocery shopping and put something in there. We just don't trust it. But it's holding out on its own and hopefully it continues to do so. As time goes by, my trust will be okay. It's just sad because the damn refrigerator is two years old. It is $3,000 worth of an appliance and it aggravates me to no end that we're replacing parts in it already. It's not a heavy traffic refrigerator either. Overall, I'm satisfied. American Home Shield was very responsive. And maybe it was just this situation. American Home Shield did a furnace for me last year and I couldn't have been more pleased with the folks they sent out for that. They were wonderful.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield about a plumbing issue had gone very well. The technician from Poe’s Plumbing & Backflow came the same day we put in the claim. He set up on time, did the repair and everything worked. The other claim we have has been more interesting. We have a Samsung electric range and we put in a claim for a problem with it in early November, and we’ve been going back and forth between AHS and Sears for four months. It became absurd. Sears would lose the parts. They didn’t order the right parts and didn’t show up on time. AHS didn’t communicate with them on what they needed. Sears dropped the ball. But finally, we got the parts after three months.

There were some communication errors between India and Sears that were here in California. They got the part that was supposed to work, but it didn’t. It was broken. And on that basis, the Sears tech contacted AHS telling them that they should replace the unit because we’ve gone the distance for four months, and everything they tried to do failed. Only last week did they finally concede and agree to replace the unit. But they haven’t done it. Now, they’re lowballing us and they wanna replace the electric range with the lowest-end unit available, which is different than the one we have. We’re looking at models and trying to negotiate with them. It’s not over yet.

The other option was they could fix it but they had to change the torque setup of the garage that they had on hand. We went that route and they fixed it that day but it was an extra $100 to get. If we chose the first option, American Home Shield would have covered it but we would have had to wait up to two weeks which I couldn't wait on the garage door for that long. The refrigerator was making noises and everything in the freezer part was all covered, like somebody had taken chipped ice and poured it all over. I submitted the claim over the phone and I tried to tell the representative what was going on with the refrigerator. That experience is good if you can ever get in. But their recording is unnecessary. You go to a round of mess, just trying to get to speak to a live person. It would be nice if they didn't have to do all of that nonsense with those recordings.

It takes about a day or two for the person to come out and the guy who came out for this claim was excellent. He introduced himself. He let me know who he was and what he was here for. He also showed me some identification. I wasn't just gonna let anybody come in my house. He even wanted to take off his shoes before he came in and put his rubber shoes but I told him it was okay. It was really great. When he came in, he looked at the issue and said that some kind of motor in the back was messed up and that was causing it to mess with the ice maker. Then he started explaining what he had to do after he examined it and seen what was going on. He had excellent knowledge of what he was doing.

He had to order a part and after it came, he came back and put it in. It was excellent. It doesn't make all that noise in my refrigerator now. I can also go there and get stuff out without being all frozen and having ice all over everything in there. I was very satisfied with the work performance, the repair and his attitude. His overall customer service was great. In fact, I haven't had a bad experience yet with anyone that American Home Shield has sent. They have sent some real good people out to perform the duties that I asked them to do.

I prefer to call and speak with the representative whenever I submit a claim to American Home Shield. So far, my interactions with the reps have been good. However, I’ve been trying to get a hard copy of my contract and coverage since September of last year, and one person tells me three weeks while another tells me six to 10, and I haven't received it yet.

I filed a claim for the refrigerator that was not getting cold. The contractor from Sears that came out was great. He came in in 30 minutes, diagnosed the problem and ordered for the parts to come here. Sears was great also because I would've waited over a month for the next appointment. But I was able to call them directly and they got back out after I received the parts, which came in a couple of days. And it was the same contractor that came both times.

A faucet that have been replaced prior through AHS blew off and flooded the house. It literally put three inches of water in the kitchen. It was a mess. I was trying to hold the water down on the top. The cold, I could shut off but the hot, I couldn’t. It was burning my hand so I had to turn the cold back on and then run outside and shut off the water completely. It was freaking crazy, so I called AHS.

I usually submit my claims over the phone and I wait two to three days for the contractors. I’m a chemical engineer which means I understand engineering pretty darn well and there’s been a few contractors that have been absolutely freaking liars. They’re telling you, “It’s this.” “No, it’s not. Let me show you exactly what it is.” And once you called the bluff with some knowledge, “I can’t do anything about this,” The plumbers are especially terrible. All they do is they come out and BS you.

I own a few companies too so I understand a little bit about what those plumbers are doing. They cap them for projects. They just need to add a little bit more money to these guys on their caps and you would get more quality plumbers. They want $1,200 to do an ejector pump. I’m like, “What? Hey dude, right here, Home Depot. The pump is 112 bucks.” For people that don’t know things, they just fall right into that BS trap. American Home Shield only pays 600 so you gotta pay the other 600. “Hey, why don’t we do this? Why don’t you get the freak out of my house and I’ll get a contractor to do it for me and charge me 150 bucks for an hour’s worth of work. And that’s what I ended up doing.

I was also an hour and a half on the phone with American Home Shield throughout the course of a day. And that was on a Thursday, and then on a Friday, I’m like, “Hey, where’s the freaking plumber? We got no water. I got the water shut off to the house.” They said somebody would get there so this guy showed up and we had discussed I would go out and buy the quality, initial product that was in here, Moen. I bought that so that when the guy gets here, he could take that plastic piece I complained would break when he installed. I live in a million and a half dollar house, and they put in something that I’ve never even seen in a ghetto apartment. I found it online at Walmart. That exact faucet was 15 bucks, with a 1-star rating.

On Friday morning, I was waiting, and then the guy showed up in the afternoon which was supposed to be there between noon and five. He shows up at four o’clock, and this is on a Friday, and we didn’t have any water going on in the house because I had shut it off outside. He said, “Yeah, it’s no problem.” I said, “Dude, I sent pictures, videos, everything to American Home Shield. We know what the problem is, just replace it.”

He said he was just there to inspect but I told him he was not leaving the house until he replaced it. My homeowner’s insurance deductible is $5,000. They’re still remediating but it cost me $5,000. The mold down here grows and the water went all the way down to the basement, through the carpet. I wasn’t joking. So he ended up replacing it. But some contractors are rock stars. Like the GE guys are awesome. The pool pump guy is a wrestling coach at some high school here and was awesome. The company is fine. I’ve got no beef with the company, whatsoever.

I have been with American Home Shield for two years. Their website is a waste of time. I'm 74 years old and I'm not a techie at all. So I don't like using websites to file claims. While part of the problem is me, the website is not user-friendly as far as I am concerned. There are other websites that are much easier. If you have to call in over the phone, you'll end up spending 40 minutes on hold. So be prepared to sit on hold for a long time. That’s a weakness on AHS' part. However, when I finally got a live person, they were very thoughtful and thorough.

Some of American Home Shield's contractors are good, and some of them aren’t. When I had problems with my air conditioner a year ago, we went through three different contractors before they finally sent somebody out that knew what they were doing. The first contractor was useless. One of the guys wouldn’t go into the attic. He said I have a problem with my duct thing. I told him to check him out but he said he doesn't do attics. AHS then had to send out Ace Heating & Cooling and their tech said that while the duct thing was fine, I have a capacitor that was out. He then replaced that and everything was fine.

Ace came back and offered to do a free service on one of my air conditioners, and then I agreed to pay for the other. While they were working on it, they determined on the second air conditioner that there was a part that was defective. They contacted American Home Shield to get that covered through them, and they did, and it worked out well. Other than that, I had a problem with my pool pump motor and AHS sent a company out that did a stellar job. The guy came out, replaced the motor, and he was in and out of here in 15 minutes. The pool pump worked great ever since.

I called AHS on a Thursday and was told that someone would get in touch with me. I had two separate companies do that and both scheduled to call between 8:00 and noon. Both of their techs showed up and they were polite and conscientious. They solved my problems and it couldn't have been a better experience. There was one time however when somebody came for a claim I filed with AHS and I paid them $75. However, AHS said the repair wasn't covered so that was disappointing. Still, I've had a good experience with AHS.

I filed a claim online and it was very simple and easy to navigate through the website. It was very user-friendly. But quickly, I got a recall for another company and that is fixed now. I have another house that wasn’t so good at the beginning and then it was hard to make appointments with AHS. It had a refrigerant issue that home warranty didn’t cover much, and I would have to pay $500 to $600. That is a part of the contract and I didn't like it. We have no way to verify that it's fixed or not because we don’t know if there's a leak so the refrigerant would become low or not. But it's fixed as well.

I am in the midst of an awful experience with American Home Shield. I've been without hot water for 9 days with no sign of any in the future. This is a result of a hot water leaking profusely from my water heater. The serviceman came out within 2 days which was fine. His paperwork that he left with me said that there is a leaking from base and the cold side valve and that the unit needs to be replaced. AHS has chosen to only look at the valve issue and says they must make another visit for him to do that first. The serviceman cannot come back until NEXT week, making it 15 or more days without hot water. I have told everyone at AHS I have talked to that the water leaking was HOT water. They sound very sympathetic, but stick to their story about the valve. I presume that after the valve is looked at it will be another week before I get a water heater. THIS WATER HEATER IS 35 YEARS OLD.

Meanwhile this 75 year-old-widow living alone is heating water on her stove and carrying it to where needed. Not at all safe. Two officemates have had AHS. It took one 3 weeks to get a water heater, the other it took 5 weeks. That gives me little comfort. What is it with water heaters and AHS? For every service call I lose 2-4 hours of work, costing me greatly. This is a poor way to run a business.

My microwave is still not working and I keep calling AHS and asking to speak with a supervisor. I'm always placed on hold, as I'm typing right now it's 62 minutes and I'm still holding.

I called 4 times - a supervisor has not returned my calls. They call me everyday to renew my contract, once I tell them I'm not happy I need to speak with someone they transfer me to customer care and hang up. I'm so disappointed in their customer service. I spent the yearly fee, and pay $100 each time and I only called them for one item and I'm still stressed. They tell you that they will replace it when you sign up but they make it impossible. After requesting a quote they called multiple times a day. Also several emails later from them, I finally answered the call even though I did not want to purchase until I had finished my research but I thought I might hear what they said. The person on the other end went over what was covered, asked the questions about some of the items in and around our home - did we have a garage or a pool type thing. They gave me the pricing, said we just had to wait 30 days and asked for my form of payment. When I said I was not ready to purchase and I was comparing plans to get the best coverage at the best price he says, "Well that is what I am offering you" and then proceeded to act offended.

He then said (using a derisive tone of voice) that I could compare but they could only offer me discounts not service. He even named other companies he said would be cheaper. Now remember at this point I had not said I wasn't going with AHS only that I was shopping still when he has the nerve to say to me that I could go with another company but "I would remember this conversation" when it didn't work out. Now I won't cut my nose off to spite my face if I decided AHS is the way to go, I would still purchase. However, I said in response that I had not said no to the company but I would certainly not purchase from him. I said that I didn't like the way he was speaking to me and I certainly would remember the conversation. He started our call saying we were on a recorded line - I sure hope so and I hope someone reviews it.

I've been a customer of AHS for about 7-8 years. But within the last year something has changed. You cannot reach a customer service representative that speaks English as their native language. You wait on hold for 45+ plus minutes and when you ask to speak to a supervisor, you either get put back into a holding loop that never ends or you get mysteriously disconnected. At the end of November, AHS replaced a garbage disposal and we paid a $75.00 service charge. Today, when we had to go under the kitchen sink we discovered that the new disposal had been leaking for a long period of time. We immediately called AHS and were informed that since we didn't discover the problem within 60 days, we would need to pay an additional $75.00 service fee. Please bear in mind that this is a warranty company that only warranties their services & repairs for 60 days!

We actually spoke directly with the plumber hired by AHS that installed the disposal and they were SHOCKED we were being charged - They stated if we had been regular customers instead of AHS customers that would have repaired for no charge. We even tried to reach a supervisor by using the message function on AHS's Facebook page, but they would only redirect you back to the customer service number that puts you on hold and disconnects you. Will be looking for another warranty company as soon as possible. Realtors need to know what they are recommending to their sellers & buyers - a scam.

After calling and disputing they would not help us, the representative was very hard to understand and we asked to cancel our contract immediately because of our dissatisfaction. When Super Rooter Plumbing & Sewer started out, I thought I had a simple stoppage in my kitchen sink. But the young man ended up causing another problem. He punctured a hole in one of my pipes. It was located behind my kitchen cabinet, under my sink and beyond the walls of the other cabinet. So he couldn't get to it and he said they would be back that Monday to fix it. He told me not to worry and that they would take care of everything but then I didn't hear anything else from them.

It was a terrible experience calling American Home Shield and trying to call the plumbers. For nearly a month, we were going back and forth with phone calls. I don't know if there was a language barrier between myself and the representative at American Home Shield. But nothing was being done and I had no return calls. There were no solid answers either. When I asked what to do or what would happen next, they would tell me to call back in 48 hours. How many 48 hours did I have to keep calling back? That was all that I kept hearing.

Customer service can definitely improved, especially when you run into a problem that needs to be resolved. But this is the first time I've had a problem with this. I couldn't talk to anyone. When we asked to speak to a manager or a supervisor with American Home Shield, we never could get connected. Nobody could ever find a manager or a supervisor. It was very frustrating. We also tried to find their corporate number to complain but we couldn't find it. It was kinda bad. We asked one of the representatives and he was like, "For what? What do you need that for? I can relay the message." We wanted to be able to email or call somebody but we couldn't get that information.

But once the plumber actually did come back out and did the work, everything went smoothly. The owner of the company even came out with two of his guys. They had to cut the back of the cabinets out but they actually reimbursed us for having to get that repaired. It just took way too long to get it resolved. We couldn't use our kitchen sink. We were washing dishes in the bathroom in the tub and the water was leaking down to the basement. On top of that, I really didn't appreciate that, in the end, I had to pay another $100 deductible. I had paid once then I had to pay again. I had to put in a whole new work order. It was a little frustrating.

And when the second guy came out, things worked out perfectly. He went in, got a model number and ordered the part that he needed. He then came out a few days later and placed the part in there. The washer started working then and it has been working great since.

I called American Home Shield to send someone to check the whole house. I had an electrical issue where not all the sockets are working. An electrician from McCaa Electrical came and he found that one of the sockets got burned, so he fixed the wire. Then he checked the outlets on the porch, the living room, and two rooms, they were okay. When he went to the kitchen, he found that some sockets there are not working and said that his time is off and that it's already 5 o'clock and that he has to go back. I asked why, since he hasn't finished yet. I told him just to come back.

When I called McCaa Electrical, they said the work is done. So I told them my request is the whole house because I don't know which sockets are working and which are not. When I called them to follow up when is a technician coming, they said that I have to get another job order. They have sent a report to AHS that the job was completed. While they gave the technicians one hour to fix everything, they don't even know what's going on. I've been calling McCaa and most of the time they're not there. I called AHS and told them that McCaa is not answering, that it's always an answering machine. The rep at AHS said they left a message to McCaa but when I called them, they said there was no message from AHS.

When I called American Home Shield they said there will be a recall order and McCaa have to finish the job. AHS did their job because they told me the recall order and that the contractor has to finish the same order with no additional charge. In addition to that, a time limit should not be given because nobody knows what's wrong. A tech will come here at 3:45 and then he has to leave at 5:00, and then from their office to my place is a 45-minute drive. They should come in the morning so they have more time. Hopefully, they will do something, because I am frustrated as of today. It's the third week that we've been waiting and they're throwing fingers at each other. I don't know who's telling the truth. I'm disappointed because it's an electrical issue and we cannot do anything.

There was a problem with our dryer. The technician conducted a full evaluation of the dryer and he was very thorough. He was very knowledgeable of what he was doing, and he fixed it lickety-split. He also had a great attitude so we were very pleased. But before, we had an issue with our dishwasher. The contractor that was sent was a different company. Our personal belief is that they’re conducting fraud on American Home Shield. They’re ordering parts before even coming and doing a diagnostic. So we reported and raised the issue and eventually, we lost all confidence in them. Three times, they came out and just couldn’t fix the dishwasher.

The coverage of American Home Shield is great. But when it came to the repair of the dishwasher, even though AHS did a 100% replacement of all the parts three times coming over, it never worked. Dishes were coming out nasty. We got to a point in saying we didn’t trust it for help. We lost money for the dishwasher and we paid premiums to fix if something went bad. We ended up buying another one and we replaced out of pocket.

If American Home Shield is overpaying for the repairs, that’s always gonna be passed along to the consumers which means my monthly payments are gonna go up. Waste, fraud, and abuse hurts everyone. It hurts the company, and when it hurts the company, it hurts the consumer. And I’m convinced that the other company is a fraud with lousy service. And so, I made a formal request that AHS never send them. They sent a different company, A & K, and it was like night and day.

I normally submit claims to AHS over the phone and sometimes, their automating machine can pick up and understand. Sometimes it can't though and they have to transfer me to someone and I have a really long wait. One time, my main sewer basement was clogged up. AHS's contractor, Arnon Rooter came and found the problem. They didn't explain it to me well and then the problem came back. The contractor came back again, ran the snake inside this time and it was found that tree roots were on the outside and that was the problem.

Their guy did a very good job though and got everything unclogged and back and working. However, AHS did not cover the repair, so I had to come out of pocket to pay for it. I went back to the fine prints of my coverage and I could barely see. AHS needs to make what's not covered and what's covered a little bit bigger so the customers can see what's all really covered and what's not covered.

Also, some contractors that they send out are not good contractors. One time, I had a problem with my garbage disposal and the company that they sent out said they needed to put an extra plug on the new garbage disposal that they ordered. So, my insurance company went off of what they said. I called from when I was out here and they said that my plug to my garbage disposal is plugged behind the dishwasher. So there is no need for them to run a new plug.

They want me to come out of pocket, paying $250 for someone to install the same kind of garbage disposal that I have and then AHS will reimburse me. I asked why I have to pay that if they will cover it anyway. I wanted them to know that the tech ordered the wrong part and for them doing that, they're making me pay for something that doesn't need to be put in. I never got that issue resolved and I have a problem with that. My experience with AHS just hasn't been so good. The only reason I'm keeping them is for my heating and air. I'm looking to go somewhere else.

The furnace was not producing any heat and I tried turning it all the way down then back up again but that didn’t work. The technician turned the furnace off at the red power switch that completely shuts the whole thing down and then turned it back on. It rebooted and the suspicion was that it was a power glitch that might have got it into a funny state where it didn’t work. Based on that, I decided I probably needed to have a remotely controlled thermostat installed, so that I could check the temperature at any time I wanted to, and make sure that the furnace was working, even though I wasn’t at home.

When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, the process was simple. I went right into the website, and I understood that I had to go through their website to initiate the process and I’m not supposed to just call a technician to come and fix it, and then get reimbursed. We've had AHS for a lot of years and some of my experiences with their contractors have been bad, but overall, they're pretty good. Their contractors in Texas has been better than we've had in the past. They followed up and they were pretty good. It also takes no more than one week to settle a claim except for one incident which took several weeks. I had an issue with my oven back in the holidays and I had to follow up with the contractor quite often. But he ended up coming out and getting it fixed.

I usually submit my claims online but the online portal sometimes is very vague and there are a few options. For my last claim, I had to choose something but it was not specific. Also, sometimes, having a warranty is aggravating 'cause I pay for the coverage and then they don't cover certain things. But overall, having older appliances, it gives peace of mind and American Home Shield is reputable. They have gotten better through the years. We struggled with them quite a bit in Georgia but I feel like it's a lot better company now that we're using them here in Texas.

We had a small leak in our kitchen ceiling that was growing. We didn't know what was going on, and so we called in a claim with American Home Shield. They sent out a plumber and I told him that the leak was underneath the shower. I measured and the leak was exactly where the drain of the shower was. He walked upstairs, looked at it and came back down. He cut a hole 4 feet down and 4 feet away from where the water spot was. He saw a drain pipe rather than the actual bottom of the shower pan. He said that the shower was leaking around the seal. It just needs to be re-caulked and that was the pipe. His answer was for me to go back up and re-caulk around the edges where the shower meets the floor. He also didn't let anybody know that the hole needed to be patched! I wasn't very pleased with him.

It was a lot of work to get things fixed on my most recent claim with American Home Shield. They sent out a technician and he did the best that he could but then the issue didn’t get fixed. They then fixed something else and then I got another bill for that. It's frustrating. It was not efficient enough but it was better than nothing. They should also improve on computer recall. They don’t give you options to type in information, so they know what is going on with the consumer. I used to file my claims over the phone but it took forever, so I've been doing it online since. Still, when I have a recall, it doesn’t give me options. It doesn’t let me elaborate or tell me what is going on. Also, it seems that they have it set up so they don’t have to pay and that the consumer has to pay.

This is my third time with my refrigerator that didn't get fixed. AHS said that I requested icemaker but my icemaker is not even connected and I yet had a fee for it. If they are gonna provide a service, stop using loopholes so the consumer will pay. They should make it as simple as possible so they could fix our items. That’s the whole reason we get the home warranty. So, AHS will take care of it, not me take care of it. The service is there to accommodate my needs. Also, they should have maintenance on stuff that regularly breaks down. That way, I don’t have to pay out or give instructions.

The American Home Shield (AHS) webpage ** states that permits up to $250 are covered for water heater replacements. I was told by AHS that the $120 permit fee for replacing my water heater will not be paid by AHS because my actual contract does not mention the word 'permit' - disappointing. Please change your misleading webpage.

I would absolutely NEVER buy this "Shield" for myself. The only reason I had my home covered with AHS was because my realtor had the sellers of my house buy it as part of the closing contract. I had two experiences with AHS during the first year of home-ownership. The first, a garbage disposal, was actually pretty painless. They came, they charged, they left. The second, was absolutely horrible. My hot water heater was not giving me hot water for more than 5 minutes at a time and I put in a ticket to get it repaired with AHS in early January. They did not have any companies in-network that would service my town (30 minutes from the capital of the state). So I was tasked with finding a plumber that would jump through all the hoops AHS needed for him to be able to replace my water heater.

I found a GREAT plumber that was willing, and after two weeks of him trying to get ahold of them (two of the three phone numbers they gave me were WRONG) I called them myself and connected the call with him so things could actually move forward. He was able to come replace the water heater within days of getting the go ahead. This was early February. AHS let me go without hot water for a MONTH because AHS was unable to answer a phone. Fast forward to after the repair, I paid him up front and they were to reimburse me. I turned in what they said they needed from me the day after he installed the new water heater. I got the generic email saying the invoice was received.

A month without any contact had me calling again, by this point I have at least 10 hours on the phone with them for this project. During the latest hour phone call and hold session I was told I needed to send in another piece of information I had already sent in. I asked to talk to the department that could verify they had all the information they needed but was told "they could not transfer my phone call due to company policy." I hate to blame the people answering the phone for AHS, but they have clearly been coached to be as difficult as possible. From giving out false phone numbers and to lying about being able to transfer phone calls I am sick of this company. American Home Shield is clearly a company that just wants to pocket as much of your money as possible while frustrating you to the point where they hope you'll give up and just repair things yourself.

I put in a request for my oven soon after signing up and it has been two weeks and they have not been able to find a contractor to visit our home. Now, an agent called me today telling me I should cancel my service because they don't have ANY vendors for ANY services! Why would you say that you cover my area when you clearly DON'T?! Now, I'm more than 30 days past closing on my house, so I will have to pay for these repairs and most likely several others out of pocket. Meanwhile, we've have to cook using only a microwave and a crockpot.

The garage door would not open and I called it in at American Home Shield. The person was nice and helpful, and he guided me through what I needed to do since that was my first time requesting any work to be done. The next day, someone was able to come out to my home and he was a nice guy too. He told me what needed to be done and then he got busy doing it. He replaced my garage door opener and the rollers where it rolls smoothly and it’s not noisy. He also adjusted the chain and since the repair, the garage door has worked wonderfully.

I do not recommend you purchase this warranty. I have had them come out twice for the same issue, and they refuse to repair a leak with my HVAC even though I very carefully looked for an exclusion to leaks and found none. Their technicians say they can’t fix it because the entire system isn't completely broken. A smart business would fix it before it becomes more costly due to complete system failure. But of course their technicians report they fixed the issue when they didn’t. Thankfully I have their signed statements clearly noting the leak and their refusal to fix it. I also filed a complaint against them and it was closed out because they failed to respond. I’m now selling my house and this leak is coming up under inspection and I have to pay even more to get this resolved. You’ll bet I’ll be following up with proof of my detriment for their breach of contract later.

When the tech came out and looked at my heater, he determined it was the thermostat and he replaced it. I am from the HVAC industry and I knew of the tech. He is highly respected and he does a great job. I had an awesome interaction with him. I just turned 65 and having American Home Shield takes the worry out of my maintenance on my equipment. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and the experience went very well. The next morning, AVJ Lockjaw came out and they did an amazing job. I described to them what was going on but they still had to be professional, come out and do their own diagnostics. They didn't have the part needed but they ordered it the very next day. Since the repair, the unit seems more efficient. I don't know if that was because AVJ ordered a higher quality motor, since it was replaced years ago by a different contractor, or the unit has been going out for a while then. Everybody did a great job and I really appreciated it.

Our refrigerator went out. It quit cooling and the compressor quit working. So, we had to file with American Home Shield for it to be replaced. But they couldn’t find the parts to fix the fridge so they just went ahead and replaced it with a new unit. That process went okay, though I had to wait forever to even speak to somebody at AHS about the options of replacing the fridge. Still, as far as having somebody call us about fixing the fridge, and also getting our fridge, we didn't have to wait very long.

AHS's delivery guys were supposed to call us two days ahead of delivery and they didn't. I got a 20-minute notice that they were delivering the fridge. Also, their guys were supposed to hook everything up for me and haul off the old refrigerator. They didn't do that because I wasn’t ready for them. I’m still waiting for somebody else to come back out and finish the job.

I prefer submitting claims online, but sometimes, it doesn't quite have all the categories I need. If I don't see the category, I just call and it usually takes five minutes, which is fast. I had a plumbing issue and Greenway Home Services needed to fix the thing in there and pull out hair. I have used AHS two times and both situations with the contractors were excellent.

I had two, back-to-back claims with American Home Shield, and the most recent one was good. When the garage door wasn't working, the day-to-day operations were not good. The technician for the garage door was amazing. He came from San Antonio and told me exactly what time he was gonna be here. He showed up right on time. He was courteous and fixed the garage door promptly within an hour. And then, with my oven, the technicians had to order a part. So it's not completely done. I haven't been able to cook in two weeks. I knew it needed a part, so I knew that was gonna take a bit longer to get fixed. But the techs were on time and were kind. They let me know what was going on with everything and I had a great experience with both of them.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield was very easy to do. The reps are nice when I call in. I don't have to look up my account number, they can just pull up my phone number, which is good. When I filed the claims, within 10 to 30 minutes, somebody called me already and then that person set up an appointment for both of those claims. It's easier sometimes to call AHS and it's also faster for me. Their reps are prompt in answering. Everything's been great with AHS.

Our garage door wouldn't open and I tried to file a claim with American Home Shield over the phone but I ended up not being able to complete it because the call dropped when I was on my cell phone. So, I did it online the second time. Navigating through their website was straightforward. They had all my information because we have set everything up. They pulled up my customer number and everything auto-populated. I told them what I needed repaired and then I got a text not too long after that it was already processed and that a tech from Cactus would be calling us which they did to set up the appointment.

The tech took a look at it and he said that the circuit breaker was burnt out. Then he also changed out the plastic wheels to metal wheels, so they would roll quickly and last longer. Now, everything is operating perfectly. We had to reprogram our garage door openers and the tech showed my husband how to do it. Then when I got home, my husband was able to do exactly what he said again and they both worked. Yesterday, we replaced a bulb because the tech said that the bulb that was in it previously wasn't a good light. He said that it would cause the circuit breaker to burn out again. He suggested the LED light and we were able to go to Lowe's right down the street from us and pick one up with no problem.

American Home Shield is doing a good job. When we first moved in the house, our water heater busted and then we also had our AC unit go out two weeks after that. AHS sent a guy right out and he had to go get the part but he got it fixed that same day we called out. The turnaround time was quick. The longest claim we had was the one for the water heater because we had damage inside the house due to water flooding. That took a long time because the wall had to be cut out and the carpet replaced and it involved multiple different companies but everything still worked out and all we had to do was our deductible. We appreciate what American Home Shield is doing. We're definitely seeing the use of it for the money we spent and where we intended it for.

The issue began with a cracked toilet on the master bathroom on the main floor of the house. It flooded downstairs so we turned the water off. I called American Home Shield and they set Davis Plumbing up to come out. Aside from the toilet issue, I had also had a few other little issues that I hadn’t called American Home Shield on. One was the cold water filter underneath the kitchen sink that had been leaking and that I had turned off a couple of weeks before. I also had a spigot underneath the laundry room sink that had been dripping. Then a day before Davis Plumbing came out, I noticed that my hot water heater was not giving more than about five minutes' worth of hot water. It was sort of a cascade of things so when they came out, they were looking at those four things.

While Cory, from Davis Plumbing, was in the house, he also noticed that my interior shut-off valve was so old and antiquated that we couldn’t get it to move. So if I had had a break inside the house, there would have been no way to turn the water off. So Cory spoke with American Home Shield and they authorized the new interior shut-off valve for safety reasons. So Davis Plumbing has done everything and they’ve been quick to come out. They have not quite finished the job but only because I’m waiting for new flooring to go down in the master bathroom before they put the new toilet down. But I had other people pull up the flooring to get things dried out and Davis Plumbing has been great to work with.

However, the only reason why I use the old-fashioned phone customer service to file claims is because I have never been able to get an online account to function. It would never let me in even though I followed all the directions stated online. My Wi-Fi and my computer work fine too. Then on my very first experience with American Home Shield a few months back, it took about two hours before I got the first person on the phone. It was very disheartening. Also, although the lady I spoke with was doing her very best, I knew English was her second language. She was obviously reading off the script and it was very hard for her to understand what I was explaining. It was one of the situations where something was lost in translation because she wasn’t quite understanding what I was talking about.

We finally got it resolved but that conversation was 45 minutes on the phone trying to explain. I have no problem with somebody having English as a second language. But it would have been nice to have had somebody with a little bit better understanding of English to be able to translate for her very quickly so that she could learn about what we were talking about faster.

But my last few experiences have been much better. Even the English of the people picking up the phones is much better. On this particular time that I called American Home Shield, the customer service was great. The phone was picked up right away and I was very pleased with their response. I’m glad that American Home Shield is paying more attention to their inbound customer service phone lines. I know it’s very old but people still call in. They might also wanna look into why I can never get my online account setup though, so that I can do an online repair request. But all in all, everything went really well.

We had been opening and closing the door to the microwave for weeks and it had been buzzing. Also, sometimes the power would be off, and we'd open it, press buttons, and open-close the door, and it would come back on. It wasn't really frequent and it didn't set off alarm bells until nobody was using it one day and I heard it buzzing. So I pulled the power plug and called American Home Shield. Keep It Cool was sent out, and they were awesome and great to work with. The gentleman who came was extremely accommodating. We were working from home while he was there, and he gave us space and politely asked for attention when needed. He took the microwave apart, and we found a door switch that was showing to be shorted out, so he ordered a new door switch. That took about a week to get delivered.

He came back, and when he installed a door switch and put everything back together, it worked while he was there. But that very evening, we went to use it, and it completely shut off. No buzzing, no fizzing. So, he came back out to look at it and he took everything apart. He was there for hours testing all the components and all the guts of it out. He hadn't determined anything else was wrong, and when he went to plug it back in to test it, it started blowing out the circuit breaker. So he had to keep running back and forth and he tried different things. He kept resetting the breaker from the garage and back. But no matter what he did or what he tried, he couldn't find anything else that was shorted out.

I've repaired things before, and although that's not my forte, I got the general idea. You'd have to go wire by wire to find if something was not right inside the control panel. It's a little beyond a repairman's skill set, more for an engineer. So at that point, he packed it up and left, and AHS contacted us about getting a replacement for the microwave.

I just picked out the replacement from their online store today. However, all our kitchen appliances came with the house we bought and they are the same, but AHS doesn't offer that brand, so we had to kind of debate. Do we wanna take the money and then put a big investment in getting a replacement that matches? But it's an older appliance. Or do we wanna take a look at what they've got and maybe upgrade a bit with something that looks the same even though it's a different brand? We just bought the house and we're gonna live there a long time, so maybe we start moving in that direction. Meanwhile, their payout would've been almost about what it would cost to replace the exact same microwave, but it did not include the disposal, which is not a big deal. But it didn't include the installation either, as well as hanging that thing up there.

My wife and I are both technical and we submit claims online. Anything we can do on the phone or online without having to break time off to do those things works better for us. Phone calls take forever. AHS's website, however, is semi user-friendly. It’s very functional, but it lacked a lot of instructions. I wound up having to call them a couple of times because we had a little confusion with the instructions they explained. Neither the email they sent us nor the website itself explicitly said that it includes the installation or disposal. But before I made an investment, I wanted to make sure that it did.

AHS's contact center provided a call back function, so when they told me that their wait time was about an hour, I took that option, and that worked great. They called me back, they announced that they put me first in the queue, and then they had me with somebody in less than a minute. That was helpful. But maybe they could provide more instructions when you call, and put that in print. That would help AHS and their customers. Nevertheless, we're happy with the resolution. Everybody we talked to was very friendly.
