I had a heating issue wherein the fan in my HVAC unit comes on if I put it on auto but no heat was coming out. Then, when I increase the temperature, the unit would not turn on the auto mode. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. A tech came and he was very professional and kind. He diagnosed the problem very quickly and took care of it. My interactions with them have been very positive and since the repair, the HVAC has been great.

I joined American Home Shield in June of last year. I made one claim then I called for my second claim for the doorbell that was not ringing. City Electric came and fixed it. It took their techs five minutes and they did a good job. Come August of 2018, I had a leak in my living room so I called Home Shield again and they sent somebody. The man came and looked at it. He just stood there and did not even back down. He said that it was a slab leak and it was covered but he had to check out registry from the company. Then he went away.
After that, I called AHS but nobody was answering. I called them again and I talked to somebody who said that the slab leak was not covered. When I called once again, somebody said that it was covered and I had to send them the invoice so they could reimburse it. I paid $1,500 and I sent the invoice to them. They wrote a receipt of it and told me that they received it. I trusted them that they already had it and it was under review. But then, they never did anything so I said okay. But in the end, we got the refund.
Now, we had a drainpipe leaking which happened to be at the same spot where we previously had the leak. I called Home Shield to have the pipe changed and I told them that I didn't know if they covered it or not. The man said that draining the pipe was covered. Then, they sent a person from GMG Construction and he looked at it. I was told that they had to make a hole in the shelf and in the wall. After that, he went away and said he had to tell the company. He did not know how to do it and made an excuse to use that the shelf was in the way. It is not in the way at all and the shelf is two feet below the ceiling and the hole is in the ceiling.
Also, the drainpipe is up in the ceiling which is not very high here in the kitchen. I then got a letter from Home Shield that the plumber could not fix it because of the shelf being in the way. But, we got it done now by another plumber who did not even touch the shelf. They had one hole still in the ceiling and the shelf is as it is, like all my bunch of things around the shelf. Given my experience, I did not have a good one with American Home Shield.
Good afternoon Nasim,
Your concerns are understood regarding the plumbing service request and non covered cost to complete the repairs. I would be glad to speak with you. and resolve any remaining issues.

I'm glad I found American Home Shield online. Prior to getting them, I had First American when I bought the house and I had a terrible experience. They were awful so I dropped them. Then, I didn't read all the bad reviews for American Home Shield until after they had to come out here but I'm sorry that so many people are dissatisfied. People think that they're signing up for new appliances and I just don't understand. Other than that, I'm perfectly satisfied. I called American Home Shield and spoke to a representative who was very nice both times. I had an issue with the garage door opener due to the snow. American Home Shield sent a guy who showed up within two hours and fixed it. He also took care of my lock. He was a very nice young man and very polite. He left after doing the job and I have no complaints. The garage door seems to be working real well now.

Recently, I had two issues. One was with the dryer. Then I had a circuit board that went out and we lost heat on half of the house. I submitted claims to American Home Shield and their reps have been wonderful. They are very pleasant, professional and helpful. After I submitted my claim, the notification I got was a combination of emails and phone calls. Both times, the vendors and repair techs were responsive and I got a response within an hour. The contractors who come have been very professional and friendly, and the interactions I had were very good. They usually tell me what’s going on. When they finish, they tell me what they’ve done.
Multiple Services Inc came and repaired my heating system. For the dryer issue, the technician had to come back again. It was squealing. He checked out the rollers, the drum, and the pulley system, and put some lubrication in there. The very next day, it was squealing again. I called and said that he got to come back. I knew that the WD-40 wouldn’t solve it because I could smell it so he came back and he had to order the parts which took a couple of weeks to get them in. Then he came out, had some new rollers and tensioner belt installed, and he was in and out within an hour.
The dryer and the heater are both working fine now. I had American Home Shield on the previous house, and when we moved out to Prescott Valley, I had some other warranty plan which I didn’t renew because I wasn’t satisfied and went back to AHS. They do exactly what I expect from a home warranty company and I was very pleased. I’ll take care of them as long as they keep taking care of me.

I had no heat and I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone because I couldn't figure out how to submit it online. It was asking either an air conditioner or furnace, but my system is an air conditioner and a heater built into one unit. It would've been easier if it was specific enough. But the contractors from Ultra Heating & Cooling were great and very professional. They are prepared and they know what they're doing. My unit has been functioning great since the repair and it made things a lot easier and comfortable. I've only had to use AHS twice, but I'm satisfied. You put out $500 a year for it and it's there just in case. I'd recommend them.

American Home Shield has been very good and helpful for us. My heating unit wasn’t working properly and I submitted a claim for it over the phone, and their response time was awesome. A contractor came out here within 48 hours and he did a great job. His communication skills and work performance were very satisfactory.

Filing a claim online with American Home Shield is simple to do and I prefer to do it that way. I recently filed a claim for a pool equipment issue and the contractor that they sent out was awesome. The techs were on time, and they were really quick at fixing the problem and explaining what the issue was. They completed the job in the same day.

Over a week ago my water heater gave out. I put in a service request through American Home Shield (AHS). They assigned my work order to a very bad company called Habit Plumbing. Habit Plumbing came out to assess the problem and told me that they submitted the diagnosis through AHS and they kept telling me this over the course of 8 days. When I would follow up with AHS, AHS would say they never received anything. I spoke to numerous supervisors at AHS and they would tell me that they spoke to Habit Plumbing and that the diagnosis was being sent as we were speaking on the phone - one of many lies told to me by AHS.
Then AHS would tell me that they submitted a complaint on my behalf to their contract relations department - another lie. Then AHS would tell me that they submitted an expedited request for my work order - another lie. Then AHS told me Habit Plumbing had 24 hours to submit a diagnosis just to have a supervisor at AHS tell me later that there was no timeframe for them to submit a diagnosis. So me and my 3 children not having hot water is not a concern to AHS. Taking cold showers is no fun. It has been 8 days and my water heater is still not fixed and AHS would not assign my work order to another company because they said Habit Plumbing was still operating under their guidelines.
So let's recap: Habit Plumbing lied and provided false information to me and AHS and that is acceptable to AHS. Habit Plumbing has still yet to submit a diagnosis to AHS for my water heater so the work order can't move forward. AHS has also lied to me and provided false information to me, says that Habit Plumbing is operating under their guidelines and they haven't done anything wrong, and AHS refuses to assign my work order to another company. I had to take matters into my own hands and pay another $100 service fee to get my order assigned to a different company who has also yet to call me and come out to assess my water heater. I don't recommend AHS to anyone. You should get another company who provides quality customer service, doesn't lie, and make customer satisfaction their #1 priority. I am still waiting to get my water heater fixed as of 1 March 2019. If I could give no stars I would.
Good morning Maria,

I requested service & received a call from the contractor on a Sunday. We decided I did not need the call. I called AHS and cancelled the service on Sunday. The fee was deducted on Tuesday and I am being told it will take 14-21 days for a refund. REALLY!?? With technology today there is no reason for this other than for AHS to keep the little bit of $ WAY longer than they should. So unhappy with this that I will be finding another home warranty company.
Good morning Charlene,
Your concerns are understood regarding the service fee refund and delay in credit time. I would be glad to speak with you and explain the processing time.

This is the worse service ever. I have had 3 items and have had to argue every time. I have to read the contract to the person taking my request in order for them to approve the service and argue that it is part of the contract. I have not had hot water for 7 days now and they are saying it will take another 5 to get the part - which can be purchased at Home Depot. I could have had hot water the same day we lost the hot water heater. When I called and asked for clarification they can't explain so I asked for a supervisor and they hung up on me. I will NEVER recommend this service. Way to many options to be treated this way!!! If I could give them less than one star I would!
Good morning Lisa,
I understand your frustration regarding the delay in service to have your hot water system repaired due to the part delay. I would be glad to speak with you and get the repairs completed.

I have had AHS since I purchased my home 4 1/2 years ago. It has always been a good experience with them when I've needed them which isn't often. The contractors are fine, yet occasionally you get one that doesn't do their job fully. This happened with my washer. AHS sent a contractor out who didn't even fill out the invoice correctly and took forever to get back to them. 2 weeks later I speak to AHS and they were unhappy with the service I received in addition to the problem stated so they requested a 2nd opinion at their cost, not mine.
6 days later I'm told the washer will be replaced and to call the appliance company tomorrow to finalize the process. I'm not expecting a $1500 washer to replace the one that was not repairable. That seems a bit ridiculous. What I'm expecting though is continuing great customer service and a new washer that's suitable in size and hopefully wash cycle options like the one I had. At this point it's been almost 4 weeks since I had a washer. I'm ok with the wait as AHS honored my warranty plan. As a homeowner and single parent who lives in expensive southern California, I'm extremely grateful for AHS.
Wendy,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Purchased a multi million dollar home with a home warranty. Moved in and determined that the cooktop burners dont work. Called them out to repair it and they denied our claim because they said we caused damage to the burners! It would take a sledgehammer to damage the burners on an all steel cooktop. Not to mention that the burners have metal grates around them which the cookware sits on top of. Later found out the parts for this cooktop are no longer manufactured and the entire cooktop needs to be replaced. About a $1500 expense. Lousy service, lousy claims department. Policy not worth the paper it's written on. Dont waste your time.

I have always had the best technicians and the best response.

We had 12 inches of rain here in the last week. The basement flooded and the heating unit was down there. We smelt some smells and we turn the gas off. I went online and requested service to American Home Shield to let their contractor come and check it out, and paid for it too. This happened on Sunday and they responded on Monday and said a guy out of Cullman will respond. But Cullman is 80 miles away so I said that it was ridiculous. I called AHS and I was on hold for quite a while. When I talked to a gentleman, I asked if there is somebody closer. And I got the, “Well, this is what the computer says, this is what we do.” I asked him to clarify with me their policies because he never would say if there were other contractors in the area. He said that their policy is to just choose the guy on top because they're trying to fluctuate through and give everybody equal calls.
A little while later, Cullman calls me and the lady said that it’s gonna be Thursday or Friday before they can get here. She added that I was more than welcome to call AHS back and see if there’s somebody else. I called AHS back and the lady that I talked to that afternoon was a delight. I explained to her the story and she asked me to let her find somebody that can get to me sooner than Thursday. She put me on hold a little while, did some checking, then came back saying that she doesn’t have anybody that time that could be here that day but she said she would do some more checking and would email or text me as quickly as possible.
Within thirty minutes, she texted and said that Southeastern Property Services, a contractor from Russellville which is 30 miles from here would contact me. A guy named Gary contacted me and came that afternoon. He did some inspection on the heating unit and whatever was down under there was making some noises when he first fired it up. But now, it's not. He did everything he needed to do and fired the heating unit back up. He was great and I’d love to have him back too. Everything was great and I’m a happy man.

I had some electrical plugs that weren’t working and for those, I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. Getting the claims process started was easy. But there is always an issue about the amount of time for them to get somebody out here. The contractors are busy and don’t work on weekends. That’s the problem I usually have – the weekend. When I had a problem with my refrigerator, I had to wait for somebody. I called on a Thursday and there was a long holiday so the contractor didn’t get to me until Tuesday after the holiday. Everything thawed out of my freezer and I had to take everything out. There is nothing I can do about it and I don’t think Home Shield can do anything about it. But they can if they want to. The contractor that came out for the electric plugs was great though. It was All Safe Electric and the issue was taken care of.

Recently the heater went off and it wasn't working. The contractor showed me a picture of what was happening up in the attic, so I was really pleased with that and really happy with the service. A year ago, we had to wait for weeks on an air conditioner in the middle of summer, and where I live in Texas, it was 85 degrees outside. The guy came out from Abilene, and he kept saying that that was reason that it took him so long. Then it took him three days to get the unit fixed. He told us on the first day that he did some of the work, and he would come back out the next day. So we waited, and he didn't come back. My husband has MS and COPD, and being here without an air conditioner was not conducive for him. We opened all the windows in the house for two days. When the tech came out and finished up the job, he said that he had gotten stuck on this school, and it was the summertime.
Recently, however, I filed a claim with American Home Shield for an AC issue because the fan was laying on the compressor. The contractor from Absolute Paradise came that same day and checked our unit. He was really prompt at getting here and doing the work. When I talked to a lady at Absolute, I asked her if the tech could service it for the summer while he was out here. When he came out, he looked to see what was going on, put the fan back where it's supposed to be, and then he serviced the unit, getting it ready for summertime. He did it without extra cost to me. He was very nice, and now the unit is working fine. I'm glad that, now, AHS has workers coming out of San Angelo. I suppose that's where this person came out of.
AHS has been really good to us. I really feel that anybody that has got any negative to say to them should call them and talk to them about it, and not be mouthing them. My daughter that lives right next door has the AHS warranty also. If we call someone out, and a week or two later, they call someone out, it's the same people. We're two houses here that are very happy with American Home Shield.

I called my repair persons through American Home Shield. I usually call in and schedule something. And then they tell me that the person or the company that's going to come out might contact me within the next 48 business hours. Usually, I work all day, so when I get home if I have a problem, I usually call it in at night or first thing in the morning, and someone usually calls me either that morning or the next day to get the problem set up and get them out there. They're usually there either the same day that they call or the next day, depending on what the problem is.
American Home Shield sent Matt’s Plumbing Services and the tech called when he was on his way. I had a time frame and he called me in advance that he was gonna be a few minutes late, and I said that was fine. He took care of the problem quickly, resolved it and said goodbye. He was very friendly and introduced himself. He was very helpful and very knowledgeable. He answered my questions. I've had the same problem with my toilet off and on over the years. So I knew exactly what the problem was and he explained it to me. He also said that if I ever wanted to replace my toilet with a new toilet upgrade or whatever that they could certainly give us an estimate on that and go ahead and do that. My toilet works fine right now. But if it came to that point, at least, I know he had a lot of knowledge about the most up to date efficiency toilet.
AHS always send me emails with updates and whatnot. Also when the service is completed, they'll send me a survey on the company that handled that. They were totally excellent. I'm self-supporting and my money is down to the penny. I haven't had to use the warranty a lot over the years, but when I’ve needed it it's there. It has saved me so much money compared to just having to call somebody and pay out the wazoo. It's very helpful especially, when my AC unit had different issues twice last fall. That would've cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars as opposed to just my service fee. I tell people all the time they should have AHS.

A PEX pipe sprung a leak somewhere and it did the bathroom, family room and the other side of the wall. It's a big, big mess. I called American Home Shield and told them I have a water leak in the attic. AHS was right on the ball. They tried to get somebody that evening, but it was a Friday night. Then they sent somebody out Saturday morning ASAP. A contractor from SecondOpinion Plumbing came and he cut a hole in the wall first, then he went up in the attic, and found the leak in the attic. From there, he called the people who have heaters. They showed up, and then they called in a contractor who showed up too. We weren't happy about it though. That wasn't right. I didn't call the contractor, but the contractor showed up.
The contractor AHS sent never gave me an estimate what it's gonna cost to cut some drywall out. He charged me $550 for cutting a hole in a wall. And he only did a quarter of my flooring. I could've called HomeAdvisor the next morning, had somebody come out here for $100 or $50 to cut a hole in the wall. I was not happy with the contractor. I haven't paid him yet. I have a few houses in Washington that I have the American Home Shield warranty on. At one house, in Spanaway, we just had the whole water heater replaced, including the expansion and the strapping. A water expansion capsule on top of the water heater had blown two holes through the mini keg or the cylinder and it was gushing out some brown, milky water on my garage floor. So my wife had to make a phone call to AHS to get it fixed.

He knew what he was doing and did it. The refrigerator is working really good right now. American Home Shield is very helpful. It's a good company to have on your side when you need and they have people that can come out. They can either tell you if your appliances can be fixed or replaced. So, they're very thorough.

American Home Shield was very user-friendly when I filed my claim with them online as my refrigerator was going on defrost. The process was quite easy too. They contracted Holiday Business Group and the technician from there was excellent. He came out in a day's time and he was very personable. He knew what the problem was and he got right to it. My refrigerator was operating within an hour and it is still working now.
The only thing was I was told the technician would be there between 9:00 and 2:00. That was unacceptable for me. I was not gonna lose a day's work for an appliance repair. I asked if I could be given an hour or a two-hour window. I was given a yes or the technician could call me when he was on his way to my house. I asked how fast the technician could get to my house and was told in 20 minutes. The technician called at 11:20. I left and got to the house. I just met him there because he was there at 12 o'clock.
The last two times I used American Home Shield, it worked out very well. But the first three times were less than acceptable. We had a couple of problems with an air conditioner and we were given a window of 9:00 to 2:00. I did the same exact thing to get the window down and was declined. I just said that if I'm given a call, I'd be at the house. A guy was there and while he was in my driveway, he told me he was on his way to my house. I hopped in my car but when I got to the house 20 minutes later, he already left. My neighbor verified that because I told him to give me a call if he saw the truck. I was charged for the visit but I didn't pay.

In the period of one month, January, we had to make five service calls to American Home Shield to have our master toilet unblocked. We were so tired plunging it out. Poe’s Plumbing came, and they did a wonderful job with their tools. They plunged it out, and on the fourth or fifth visit, they removed the toilet and went down with the cameras to check out the problem more thoroughly. At that time, they said they couldn't find anything on the line, so it must be something where we need an extra push to get the material out. They suggested rather than continuing to call every week, that we have a pressure assist toilet installed. So, after the next blockage, that’s what we did.
After the fifth blockage, we decided it was time to make a change and we had a pressure assist toilet installed. We realized, however, that it's not something that could be totally covered by AHS. We did not expect it because it was above and beyond a regular toilet like we had, and we were willing and more than happy to pay the extra to solve the problem.
I'm fairly satisfied with AHS. The repair took a while and there was an inconvenience, but these things happen and I understand that. Also, some problems are difficult, especially plumbing. It was difficult the first and second time around. But by the fourth and fifth time, it was time for a more radical solution, and AHS stepped up and absorbed some of the cost for us in a reasonable manner. We would have liked to have a little more, but we were willing to accept what we agreed upon. We also did some research ourselves and saw what was available and what was out there. Overall, American Home Shield stepped up and solved the problem. Now the toilet works like a charm.

The heater wasn’t coming warm and I called American Home Shield. The rep that I spoke to over the phone was very helpful but due to the bad weather, the contractor wasn’t able to get up on the roof that day or the next day that I called. Once they were able to come, the guy was good and he educated me with the AC. Everything has been fine since. However, I called AHS for a plumbing situation and they didn’t cover snaking on the roof which I don’t understand. For the plumbing part, there’s not too much covered, and out in Las Vegas, plumbing is always a problem. Still, American Home Shield is good, and I would recommend them to someone.

I have a leak of unknown origin in the house so we had to bring a plumber out through AHS and it was beyond their scope of being able to do anything. So, they recommended a leak company come out. That company came out and they looked around, and what the plumber found with the use of water continually coming out, the leak detection company couldn’t duplicate.
The leak detection company couldn’t see any water being used because they marked the meter, but the plumbing company did. The leak company never really completed a test to see if there was a leak. I believe there is one, but it’s under the slab based on where the ground is always wet. So it’s all a mess to me. It sounds like they were pretty happy to just let me continue paying $400 a month for water bills. American Home Shield is responsive. They sent the other company very quickly and no questions asked, but after that there was disappointment because we got nothing other than the great response.

Most of the time when I called American Home Shield, the hold time was usually anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour. But other than that, once I got through to somebody and talked to them, everything was fantastic. We recently did a claim for a furnace that we needed to be repaired in our house, and we were in the process of selling our home. We signed up with American Home Shield for a warranty for the home. And during the inspection process, we found that our furnace needed to be replaced, and American Home Shield was very helpful in that. We called them and we went through a qualification process to make sure there were no pre-exisiting conditions, which at first, they said there were based on the timeframes. But then I called and cleared it up with them. I told them exactly the days, and what happened, and when the inspection happened.
We put our house in the market and within 24-hours, we had an offer at asking price, and then within three days, the inspection happened. So everything happened so fast that when we got approved for the warranty program, because of the paperwork delay, it seemed like the inspection happened first. But when I explained to AHS, they went through it and re-qualified us. And then they said that the issue would be covered. And then from there, they would do a full replacement for us, and then there would be some out of pocket expense. But after talking to the company that came in to do the replacement, they said that the unit that AHS was trying to replace with would take too long. Our house would already be sold by the time they would get the unit in stock because it has to be a specific unit.
I called American Home Shield back. They offered us a cash in lieu offer, so they would give us the amount they would have spent, plus the warranty that we got through them to pay for whatever we wanted to pay for out of pocket. We got the repair done two weeks earlier, didn't have to wait for the replacement part, and they will replace the unit. They sent us the check for the amount they were covered anyway, and we ended up saving much. So it was a fantastic program for us.
The company that came in through AHS, Accent Heating & Cooling, did the repairs. They said it might take two days just based on where the unit was, and how difficult it was to get to, and how long it might take to repipe. And they actually got everything done in six hours, so they were done way faster they thought they'd be. They were only there for a couple of hours one day, and then everything had been patched and everything was done. And so, AHS, plus the other company that was working with us were both very helpful.
Every person I talked on the phone has been incredibly helpful. And when they first called me back and told me that our claim was denied based on previous conditions, I didn't get angry. I told the rep, "I understood. I understand it works that way, but if you can give me a minute to explain kinda why I don't think that's the case," and she let me plead my case to her on the phone. She went back to the people who make the decisions and said the same stuff I told her. And then she called me back within an hour and said, "They went ahead and changed their decision on it, and that it will be covered, and it's not a pre-existing condition and something that we would ever known about.” So we were definitely pleasantly surprised by that, and everything was great.

Our furnace had stopped working completely so I called American Home Shield and they sent Integrity. It took Integrity four days to come because they were so booked up, but I understand that. I don’t know if AHS just has a few companies that they use in this area, but that’s how it seems and we have to wait sometimes. Still, we really liked the two contractors that were out here representing Integrity. They were really good, timely, very efficient, professional and knowledgeable about the system that we didn’t even realize we had. Everything was working when they left and it has been fine since. He showed me a couple pieces of porcelain from one of my plates that had chipped off and it was caught. And that was making the noise. He went above and beyond by cleaning it off. It was not part of the service, but he said he just wanna make sure that I won’t have an issue going forward. He then put it all back together and when we ran the dishwasher, it was perfect. The repairman tried to collect money for parts and repairs, even though we already had paid our $100 service call fee under the warranty. Even worse though, he did not repair our washer! It still stops at the same cycle as before. We called AHS, waited forever on the phone, and they set up a new call -- with the same company that failed to fix our washer last time. Even worse, this 3rd party company (Antech) now tells us that they cannot come back out for another week!
We called AHS again, waited forever again, and after going back and forth for 30 minutes on the phone, they said we HAVE to use the same vendor as before, we just have to wait another week for service and there is nothing they can do about it! If we want a new "vendor", then we have to pay another $100!! My contract is with AHS, so specifics "vendors" are their problem and all of this should be transparent to me. Not customer-oriented at all, poor repair service and poor customer service. Very disappointed!! This is 1 week into a 1 year contract with American Home Shield and clearly our first experience is extremely unsatisfactory.

The worst service I have EVER received by ANY vendor I know. Cooktop broke on 02/01/19, Called AHS on 02/01/19; today is 02/28/19, and we don't have a stove. This demonstrates their speed of service. They claim their vendors need to schedule an appointment within 48 hours the claim is assigned, we got an appoint for 5 days later. Once the technician came, they diagnosed the problem, and the report was sent 5 days after the appointment back to AHS. This is when we called everyday to check status. From there, it took AHS another 3 days to approve the parts order, 7 more days for the vendor to receive the parts. As we finally waited for the technician to come and complete the repair, thinking that we can finally have stove to cook food after a WHOLE MONTH, only to be told that technician broke the burner heads during the repair, and now the whole cycle starts again.
This is not to mention when we call customer service to follow up the status, we were told by AHS customer service rep to have some patience, because the repair will not be done in less than a month. I was also told to just use microwave to heat up frozen dinners, FOR A MONTH... Meanwhile, they already took the service charge of $75 on the fourth day of the claim filed. I have never experienced such low level of customer service in any of the services I have ever received. I feel all those 5 star ratings at the top of the page are very misleading, and people deserve to know the truth about AHS's services. I had great experience with AHS in the past. However, recently, it is a little disappointing that, after one month from the initial contractor visit, the ice maker of the refrigerator is still not fixed. Initially, contractor said that they will have to come with parts (then marked the service call complete). Then today, contractor said that AHS supposed to call and let me know that there is a class action lawsuit with the Samsung Refrigerator and give me options. I called AHS and they did not know anything about it. They said they will call the contractor and call me back shortly after a couple minutes. I am still waiting. Perhaps, this is an isolated incidence, but I wonder if there is a monitoring process of incomplete service. A month of no update from both contractor and AHS is frustrating.

It is now almost March of 2019 and my ice maker is still not fixed. The contractors don't work with our schedules, and they take weeks ordering parts and then when they get them they replace the same thing and it still doesn't work. You try to update the job or have American Home Shield send someone out and you will have to wait over an hour on the phone. You can't update on the web because they close the job out and you have to call them to explain the situation. Just a really horribly ran home warranty company. It shouldn't take 5 months to fix the ice machine on a refrigerator.
Especially, a name brand such as Whirlpool. It is not an old refrigerator. I know a home warranty place is not going to send the best contractors to fix a job, but they should at least find one contractor that should be able to work. My last home warranty place would at least try to find a better contractor if things weren't fixed right. This company just takes the contractor's word and then never checks with the owner if the problem was fixed. Please shop around.

But when something they cover breaks down, the contractor that they send will tell me that unfortunately, they can cover one thing but they do not cover this and that.
Then, when I found out how much I have to pay for, it was beyond the part they were replacing. It did not make sense because why would I have to pay for something that they say they cover? American Home Shield gets us connected with service quickly whenever we call in a claim. We usually get a callback within 24 hours. This time our service provider was Premier Appliance Services and they scheduled us up in a pretty good amount of time. Our claim was for our microwave that wouldn't run. I plugged in the time and pushed it to start but the microwave would not start. I tried all kinds of things to redo it but it wouldn't work.
The technicians were very professional, nice, friendly, and clean. It was a team that came out because we have a built-in microwave-oven combination that required two people to be able to balance the microwave when it came out. The appliance itself was not friendly to the repair guys because they had to unscrew all the sides. It was quite a process that they had to do. For the initial thing that they thought was maybe the problem, they ordered a part for it. The only thing was there was a delay because they had to order the part. You wait for that which would be common with whoever we work with. But the major problem with our microwave was what was called an inverter. The technicians had that on their truck so they, fortunately, were able to replace that. Our microwave is functioning fine now so I'm a happy camper.
Another claim we have with American Home Shield has to do with our refrigerator. It is a KitchenAid and it collects a lot of water in the bottom of it. It is kinda rusty looking too. One fellow came out and he did a bunch of work on it. But the problem came back within a week. I had Premier Appliance Services come in after that. They keep trying different things to try to remedy the problem but it hasn't been fixed yet. Fortunately, the refrigerator still stays cold and the freezer works fine. It's just that it is unpleasant looking in the bottom of the refrigerator because it's where water collects. We have to keep drying and cleaning it out.
A technician is gonna order some kind of tubing. Maybe the tubing was clogged up. He said that if that doesn't work, then it might be something to do with the insulation. Also, the team that came out for our microwave, one of them tried to figure out the refrigerator problem too. They were working with two problems with one job.

I had a faucet that wouldn’t turn off in the tub, and it had the water blasting full force. So I had to call the water company, who came and shut off my main valve. I then went to American Home Shield's website and put in a work order for a plumber. It was very painless to navigate the website and, within the hour, an email was sent out stating who would be coming to look at my faucet. I got a call within the next hour and the guy asked me if I would be able to meet him that day, to which I said, “Sure.” So, I met him in about 30 minutes. He was very courteous. He took his shoes off before he started to work and turned the valve back on, and made sure everything was working properly. He fixed everything within an hour. He was very professional and he did a great job.

My garbage disposal was leaking. I submitted a claim with AHS online and it was more friendlier than trying to get ahold of them on the phone. There's anywhere between a 30-minute to an hour wait-time to file a claim on the phone so it's horrible. But online they give you a phone number, and assign it to somebody, and then you just call that person or the people who’s gonna come out. They set-up appointment right away, and come out. Once I was still at work and the contractor wasn’t supposed to come until later, but what happened was they had a cancellation. So they called me and asked if it was okay to go to our house right then and check it out. I told him it was fine. My wife was home so he contacted her and changed things out.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for our bathroom toilet. We have two bathrooms and one of the toilets was making some noise when not in use. And with the other one, the water kept running. It wouldn't stop. My wife submitted the claim over the phone and it was simple. The contractor was out here the next day. The guy identified the problems and fixed them immediately. Everything was done within half an hour. It was an excellent service. So far, everything has been great with American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online when the shower head was leaking in the wall. I prefer submitting a claim online since I'm usually on hold forever on the phone, of which I'm not happy with. Navigating through their website is easy to do. Their technicians are awesome as well. There was a cracked pipe and the technician cut a little 2x2 square, put in a new pipe and fixed it. Since then everything has been working fine. For the most part, I’m happy with AHS.

The type of pipes our house has in it is not good. It’s an old-school style that is defective so coming in to it, we knew that there would probably be an issue. But having a home warranty has given me and my wife a lot of peace of mind because I’m personally not the handiest person in the world. Knowing that, for $75, we can have a professional here to take care of most problems that might come up has been a big relief for us. So I would recommend to any new home buyer to get American Home Shield. So far, I have filed two claims and I’ve been very pleased with American Home Shield and the plumbing company that they’ve sent. On each time that JED Mechanical Contractors had come out, the job was done professionally and effectively.
However, on the first time that I tried to file a claim, I wasn’t exactly sure I’d do it because I had never done it before. I called a number and found that that worked. But I got passed around a bit through the automated system. It was late at night too, and I didn’t know if it was considered an emergency. So what I’ve found now is that the online system is actually very effective. It works pretty quickly and is a lot simpler than calling the company. Almost instantly after I submitted the claim, I got a text message saying that JED would be in touch with within the next 24 business hours. Then on each time, I heard back from the plumbing company much sooner than 24 hours. So I’m very pleased with the turnaround time. Once, I filed a claim during the day and I heard back within hours. Then another time, I did it at 10 o’clock at night and I heard from them the next morning.
When the plumber came out for the first claim, he didn’t have the part he needed because it was not something that they carried around. I had to wait a little longer for them to order a part. Then snow was also a factor in the delay. They had to come back on a separate day and finish the job. But this last time, it was a much more simple fix. The plumber had the pieces with him and was able to do it quickly. I had a leak under the sink in one of our guest rooms and although it was dripping through the floor into the basement, I couldn’t see the leak. It was at a point that the pipe was in the floorboards. So I shut off the water in the house and scheduled the appointment. Unfortunately, due to the weather and the snow we had, JED had to postpone. But they gave me the next available time that they had and when the plumber came out to the appointment, he was able to fix the problem in less than 30 minutes. Effectively, the leak was gone.

It was a very pleasant experience submitting a claim through AHS. There were no hassles and no worries. Everything went well as far as I'm concerned. The ice-maker was broken in the refrigerator. And there was burner issue with the stove and some lights out with the stove. I went online and it was easy to navigate the website. The time frame on getting a contractor dispatched out was also very reasonable. The contractor was very personable and very professional. He replaced the ice-maker, and then they replaced the burner and the lights, so everything's working fine.

The dryer was making a lot of noise. The wheels in the back that turn the tub was kinda skipping and then the whole area of the lint thing in the front needed to be repaired. Also, one of the hose in the back of the washer had a hole in it and the timer was off on it. I submitted the claim online to AHS. Once I sit back and studied the site and was able to figure it out, it was fairly easy. All I had to do was put my information in there. They have a list of the appliance that you have and the make. If you have the model of it, just add that in there, and your address. If you want to put your bank information on there, you do that and submit it.
Within a day, I got a callback and AMTEC Services was sent out. The contractor was fairly quite a guy. He seemed to be very knowledgeable of what he was doing. It seemed like he was experienced in working with appliances. He had to order some parts for the dryer and he told me that within three to five days, the order would be in and he would be back to repair the dryer. We had to hold off from washing for a while, using the washer and the dryer for a few days. But other than that, it was pretty good. All was taken care of as he said he would.
Everything has been working great since the repair. It’s almost like new. Especially the dryer, it was making so much noise you can hear it all the way in the back bedroom. That’s all cleared up and the guy gave me some suggestions on how not to clog it up again the way it was because we were pushing the washer back up against the wall and he was saying to keep that out because the lint is going out of the ducts, it would get caught in there and back up the dryer.
Before, something was wrong with the tub so I got a repair guy to come out and it cost me $170. Also, something happened with my refrigerator that does the icing, 'cause it's automatic, and that cost me $300 and something. So when I learned about American Home Shield, I signed up for it and that was a big saving for me ‘cause it was like 500 with the repairs, probably about six months apart from when I had to call AHS in. It’s my first experience with them and I'm satisfied.

We've had a really good experience with American Home Shield. We have had some really terrible experiences in the past with other home warranties, and American Home Shield has really done well. We’ve had our air conditioner worked on, and we’ve had several plumbing issues. And every time, our experience had been great. Sometimes, they have to look a little harder to find somebody in our area because of the challenge of living out, but everything else has been super great. We’ve been super happy, and if we get to choose again when we move, we’re going to choose them.
Recently, we had a complete stoppage of all the plumbing in the house. It was between the house and the main line out in the alley, and we didn’t know that, but it began to back up one morning. And we’re about 65 miles from plumbers. We’re in a small town, so it takes a little bit of time for AHS to find somebody and approve the trip charge, but we already had a plumber out here in the fall with them that we loved. It is Powerhouse Plumbing and it is a really good company. I’ve had a lot of experience with plumbers and Powerhouse Plumbing is the best. They’re clean, approachable, kind, and good guys.
I called AHS and got a representative and I told her that we were completely without plumbing. Then I asked if she could talk to whoever. We had to get in line and the representative was really nice. She requested for Powerhouse Plumbing for us. Right after that, I got a message saying that they had been approved. So, I called them and they got here by 4:00 that afternoon. So, it was the best possible thing that could have happened. And because the AHS representative was willing to work with me and get us moved up since it was kind of an emergency, we didn’t have water gushing anywhere. I’ve already recommend AHS to my sister.

Then, the error code kept occurring on the tankless water heater so they had to send their specialist out. It hasn’t gone out again yet, but it looks like it might be fixed. We have hot water now so we can do dishes and take showers. That’s important. Having a warranty is very valuable because it covers unexpected cost. Overall, it was a great experience.

My refrigerator was shaking. At first it started out with a running motor sound, like when you ride up a bike, and it was getting really loud. I called American Home Shield and they sent service people over here. They looked at it and told me it was something about the fan. The covering is heating and then that was it. They never got back to me and never called me. I followed up with them but they still did not return my phone call back. I had to call the warranty people to tell them I needed someone else to come out and check because at that time, the fridge started to shake and I was getting nervous. That was very disturbing for me because I had to pull teeth and nail to get them to understand what I was doing. The lady who answered the phone said she would put in emails to the company asking them what was the status but I heard nothing back from American Home Shield.
So, I called back again and I got this gentleman who told me that he has to do the same procedure. American Home Shield should record whenever someone calls. I called the first time and spoke with someone stating the problem and they should have documented it in a computer somewhere stating that I followed up. No responses were given back from the company about coming out. At least the person who I called the second time would know that I called before that and I wouldn't have to go through that procedure of trying to pull strings to get another serviceperson to come out. I told the gentleman I was not going through that again because I was told I had to wait 24 hours. 24 hours was up. I said I needed to speak with his supervisor and eventually, he went to speak with his supervisor. They never came to speak to me, but he came back with a response from the supervisor stating to put in for a new serviceperson to come and see me.
The guy from Supreme Residential came out the next day and he did a wonderful job. It took him an hour and a half being here to figure out exactly what was going on and he took care of it. So far, the refrigerator is working good. I don't hear that motor sound anymore. That serviceperson came out was very professional, very excellent, and knowledgeable of their work.

Then, when you get them, they send an email saying, “We found someone who can do it.” However, their contractors never call you even if they're supposed to in 24 to 48 hours. I've had three claims with AHS and no one ever called back. When we bought our house 7 months ago, our realtor bought a AHS Service Plus Agreement for us. In the middle of November, we noticed that the furnace was blowing cold air and we called AHS to request service. Eventually, AHS authorized replacement of a circuit board that had burned out and we had heat again. So I was satisfied with AHS at that time.
A few weeks later, the furnace started to malfunction again. It was cycling between blowing hot air and then cold air and the temperature inside the house dropped to 50 degrees. The company that replaced the circuit board - Dana’s Home Heating - send their technician out and he checked wiring, fault codes etc. but was not able to get it to work for more than a day or two before it stopped. Several further tech visits did not resolve the problem.
On December 24, our Nest Carbon Monoxide detectors (6) went off and the alarm told us to leave the house immediately, so we went outside and called 911. The local Fire Department responded with the Fire Chief and a large fire truck. He investigated and told us the the CO2 level inside our garage was “off the scale” and that the poisonous gas seemed to come from the den located on top of the garage and anyone there would have suffocated.
The Fire Chief took us outside and showed us that the furnace was only burning the propane fuel partly and that was the cause of the CO2 entering the adjoining den. He switched off the furnace and opened doors and windows until it was safe to reenter the now ice-cold house. Since we our children and grandchildren were coming over for X-mas dinner, the grandchildren would have used the den. Since this was X-mas Eve, our children and grandchildren would have used the den, so the consequences of the malfunctioning furnace would have been catastrophic for us!
Dana’s Home Heating responded immediately and send the head of their technical team. He spent 4-5 hours on Christmas Day cleaning and re-setting the furnace until it was safe to re-start it. And of course, we have sealed off the Den to make sure this does not happen again. The furnace was still acting erratically and after several additional service calls told us that the furnace was irreparable.
On February 9th - in the middle of the coldest month in Seattle in 50 years with the temperature inside the house dropping to 45 degrees - we requested a service call from American Home Shield. AHS set up an appointment with their contractor - Snohomish Valley Electric - located in Everett,WA. They declined to come to our home on Bainbridge Island, since that trip would involve 2 ferry rides and a 5 hour round trip.
Following that, AHS sent us an email approving that we find an independent Furnace company in our area, as long as it was not on their list of companies that are not approved. We called Dana’s Heating and they came out and again determined that the American Standard furnace could not be repaired and recommended that it be replaced. The technician then called AHS’s Contractor line 800-251-1608 and spent an hour on the phone explaining the reasons that the furnace should be replaced.
AHS then placed their prior recommendation “under review” and assigns “Home Illuminated” in Port Townsend who arrives the next day. After spending a few hours he is unable to repair the furnace and agrees with the diagnosis by Dana’s Heating that the furnace needs to be replaced. He calls AHS Contractor line and gives them his report. I naively assume that this will give the OK TO.
When I opened my AHS “Dashboard” this morning, there was an update telling me to call yet another contractor - Amped Electric - in Everett “to set up a service call”. I presume that AHS is not paying for this but I email the company and they do not serve Bainbridge Island for the same reasons as Snohomish Valley Electric. I am writing this detailed review in the hope this will make AHS stop this absurd line of delays and obfuscating and honor their service agreement. If not, then I will pass this report to the WA State Attorney. My wife and I are 75 and 85 years of age and has been a Horrible Experience! Today, we get a message.
Good afternoon Claus,
I most certainly understand your concerns and frustration regarding the ongoing experience to have your furnace repaired. I would be glad to assist and speak with you to get the issues resolved.

I usually have to call them after a week goes by in order for the job to be completed. He works fast but doesn’t stick around long enough to actually make sure it works. The same thing happened to the washer. Thank goodness it finally works after 2 months of trying to figure out what is wrong.
I also called AHS and was told the issue would be transferred over to the contracting department, and they would call me back in 24 hours. That was a month ago and still no call. The only thing they did is call RX Appliances and told them to call me and set up an appointment. What a waste of time. If there was an option for zero stars that would be my choice. I am fed up. I have lost so much money on groceries that don’t make it past 2 to 3 days due to my fridge not cooling properly. I will not be renewing my contract. This company needs to provide better customer service. There should always be a manager or supervisor to speak with a customer who is experiencing difficulties with getting their home appliances fixed promptly and properly. The fridge is critical. I got charged $75 and I wasn't exactly thrilled about that, but I didn't know what else I could've done about it. Other than that, the techs were polite and told me that something was wrong with the inside of the toilet.
I also submitted a claim for the pool cleaner and the techs put a battery in it. But the problem is still there and I knew it wasn't the battery. I've left numerous messages and I've emailed the pool people but until now, they haven't called me back and I'm really unhappy about that. So every morning, I have to go out there and undo the cleaner that's all wrapped up because they didn't fix the pool timer. But it's a brand new cleaner, so it can't break.

AHS is a Fraud company. I created a service ticket for a minor repair on my dishwasher (malfunctioning soap dispenser and low water pressure in the upper rack). The market value of my dishwasher when I bought it a few years back was $850. Now AHS is forcing me to take the cash out option of $120. They claim my dishwasher door hinges are bent so it's deemed un-repairable. I didn’t even ask for the repair of the bent hinges, for me, it's just a cosmetic issue. The dishwasher is still in great shape and it can work for at least 3-4 yrs. They promised to repair the dishwasher to begin so I was waiting for them to get back to me. I didn’t hear back from them in weeks so when I called them back (after 4 rounds of back and forth calls with different agents) they say it has been decided that cash out option is the only option for me. This is ridiculous considering that I paid $75 for the service ticket, all I’m getting is $45 for the dishwasher (120-75 = 45).
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

One of our heating systems was not turning on and we were having trouble understanding the settings. But the tech from Crispy Air and Heating was able to find the problem, find the solution, explain it to me and take care of it while he was here. The service is great. In fact, I have no complaints about the companies that American Home Shield has sent out.
When I submit claims, I prefer to do it online. The website is fairly user-friendly and it's easy enough to go on there. I had to call to make a claim once and I was on hold for a good 25 minutes. That was pretty disappointing and frustrating. I was unable to make the claim online because it said that I had a balance due. I had called five times to have American Home Shield sort that out and take it off because it was an unwarranted charge. It was something I had already paid but they charged me twice for it. They had found the error and sent it to their account department. But their account department hasn’t taken it off.
American Home Shield keeps saying that it has been taken off. In their system, they see the notes that it has been sent to the account department and that it has been removed. But when I pulled up my account as of the last service request I made, the charge was still showing up on my account. That's my biggest complaint and that would also be a reason why I may not renew the home warranty with them once mine expires. I will buy another home warranty but it may or may not be with American Home Shield depending on how they take care of that issue.

NW Sundance Services came out that day, which was great, and the contractor totally fixed the issue. He went ahead and explained to me how it worked then we tried to get the faucet out front to work. He couldn't do it without making a hole in the wall because he couldn't tell. He couldn't find anything to turn that faucet on. But he explained everything to me and he got us all set up. It was wonderful. He was great and I told him that too. I was definitely happy.

We had a dryer fail and it would not heat. American Home Shield's reps were efficient in identifying a contractor and appropriately found someone that was geographically close although he drove from Marysville which is a small drive. Pacific Appliance came and brought a large van. Joe, who works for the company and is also one of its owners, got the information on what the dryer was and brought the parts with him on the visit. He repaired the appliance, removed the lint from its interior and checked the entire appliance out. He did an outstanding job with that. He installed the appropriate thermistor and got the dryer running right away on the first visit.
He made sure the dryer duct was clear so there would not be a repeated problem with overheating and the thermistor burning out. He checked the dryer out for other problems. There was a poorly functioning filter, and he ordered a new one for the dryer to improve the lint catching. He drove by and inserted that into the dryer one week later. He was very professional, efficient and thorough. He was watching out for AHS to prevent recurrence of a problem and the need for a repeated visit, and setting the appliance up for success. He was a win for the owner and for AHS. Pacific Appliance was one of the best contractors I've ever worked with. I'm glad that AHS chose and supported an independent, local contractor for the job.

We've been an American Home Shield customer since 2005 when we bought our first house in Winston Salem. We renewed it and kept going since then. The representatives were excellent in their customer service. In a recent claim, our furnace was only operating at a minimal mode. It has two burners and one of those wasn't working at all except intermittently. There was also a very loud noise coming from the unit so it obviously had a serious problem. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and then a guy from Aspire Heating & Air came out. He diagnosed the problem correctly and he worked efficiently. He ordered the part, came back, and replaced it. He also did a thorough check of all the other pieces and made a couple of other repairs that were related to the issue. He was exceptionally good and I couldn't have hoped for a better tech. Since the repair, the unit has functioned perfectly.

Our hot water tank was leaking from the bottom and submitting a claim for that was super simple. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield remotely for my husband. Within a few hours of submitting a claim, someone would be contacting my husband and setting up an appointment. So it’s very quick. The contractor, Snappy Plumbing & Heating, even came out that same day. He looked at the hot water tank and was able to assess very quickly that we would need a new one. He ordered it and it took them a few days to pin down the one that we needed.
We've been with American Home Shield since 2013 and every contractor they’ve sent has been very helpful and right on point with everything. All the experiences that we’ve had with them have been excellent. They provide dependability and we receive high quality of service each time that we have to call in for anything, either from the people at AHS themselves or the folks that they send out to help us. We absolutely love American Home Shield. They provide a great service and we recommend it to all of our friends, especially to their kids who are buying a brand new home for the first time. We just bought the house and we asked the seller to include American Home Shield. He paid for the basic parts and then we paid for the swimming pool addition. I call AHS and tell them about my claim. So far, I have called in three things and they had three different vendors contact me. The microwave rep came after I left town, but my sister let him in. He thought it was a part so he ordered it and it was in. But, I haven’t been back to the house so it has to wait until I get back there. And if that part fixes it, then I’ll be happy. Also, the locksmith was supposed to come but didn’t. I was called a week later wanting to schedule it but by that time, I was no longer there. So, it has to wait until I get back too.
Then, when we had an electrical issue, AHS sent R & R Electrical Allstar. They called and asked if they could come early. I said “Yes” and it turned out that inside the exhaust fan is a sensitivity adjustment and somebody turned it all the way down. So, they turned it up and it worked. I have had mixed experiences with American Home Shield so far and I have to wait and see how it goes when I get the other two done which will not be until the end of March or beginning of April.

I had two claims for an AC since I have two different compressors. One issue with the AC was on the igniter in which the tech was able to fix on the spot, while the other one needed a new control panel in which the tech said he had to place a part order. The order came in before he said it would, and he was able to come out and fix the control panel on the other one. I was satisfied with the turnaround time and with the tech coming out and fixing the AC.
We have a five-year-old and it was extremely cold and as far as the 10 or 20-degree days. It was crazy when the AC was not working, so I was satisfied with the fact that the tech was able to come out and at least get one of the compressors working. We also didn’t have to play too much of a waiting game with the other part. It came in within days and he was able to come out the same day or the next day that the part came in. The day-to-day was a little excruciating, but it was nothing on the lag time with American Home Shield or the companies that they contracted to come out. The contractors were professional, timely, thorough, and simple within the explanation of what was going on.
There was also some slow drainage in the shower, so a plumber came out for that and once he came and did whatever he did, it was fixed. I had a stove that had shorted out underneath and the young man that came out was excellent and repaired it in no time at all. It was a simple fix. American Home Shield's service is excellent and that is the only reason I'm still sticking around. They always come through very nicely and they have good subcontractors. However, I was renewing my subscription or my annual contract and I was very upset in the rates that they've instituted. I asked the rep to put in the complaint for me to someone of authority that could call me back and I could voice my opinion on that. I'd like to talk to somebody and let them know how I feel about it because I am the customer.
They've increased my cost by 60% over the course of the year. I have been paying around 225 in change and now, I'm paying 309 for the same coverage, and that was just a one-year jump. That was out of line. And it was with the $50 discount that they gave me because I have four contracts with them. I had one rate increase, then it stayed the same for two years. Then, all of a sudden, I got hit like that. If all four of my contracts go up that price, I will be looking for another company to do my bidding. I expected that there would be an increase at some point, but I wasn't expecting a 60% increase. They need to take a look at their cost of living indexing. As far as the rate increase, I'm very dissatisfied, but as far as the service, I'm very satisfied.

The contractor who came the first time didn’t seem very knowledgeable. And so, the second time, when I put the claim in, I asked AHS if they could send another company because the technician was not very knowledgeable on the furnaces. We purchased our Bosch washing machine in 2007. We bought the washer and the matching dryer. With the Bosch washer, I can’t turn the dial anymore to choose a wash. The dial is not movable and the parts are no longer available. In fact, the appliance itself is discontinued. We loved having that set because it did a great job, but now we don’t have anything except the dryer. I filed a claim for the washer with American Home Shield over the phone and it was simple to do. We filed it on a Thursday, and then we had the repairman on Saturday afternoon.
The repairman didn’t take the washer out yet because we have to look and see what is available, which we’ve been doing. We’ve looked online, and today, we’ll go out to a Home Depot store and look at the washers and decide what we want, being that the old one is no longer available. We’re trying to select a washer that will take its place. AHS gave me one washer to consider and we looked at it online. We saw it in the store but it does not have all the features that we had on this Bosch. We had the top-of-the-line when we bought this Bosch, so we’re looking for something that has a number of cycles that we had on this one.
Other than that, we had a problem with the furnace a month ago, and we called AHS. They sent out a repairman and he knew exactly what the problem was. He opened up the door of the furnace. He took off the filter, washed it out in the sink, put it back in, and the furnace was fine ever since. When a repairman comes, we always watch what they do. It's for our own opinion of how the problem was solved, and then we can report that to AHS if they send us a survey. But the repairmen have always been very good. AHS always sees that when the repairmen come here, that our appliances are immaculate. We take very good care of everything and they always thank us for that. And it helps them solve the problem quicker too.
We have been with AHS for 17 years here. We were in Arizona for nine years and we had AHS there also. We like them and they’ve taken very good care of us. The copays and the new coverage every year keep going up, but it saves us from calling a repairman from wherever and not knowing if they’re going to be reliable. With AHS, we've had very good luck with the repairmen they've sent.

Our garage door opener wouldn't work. We couldn’t open it unless we disconnected the whole thing and then try to manually get it up. It's really heavy. We're both 71 and it was 25 below zero. My husband was trying to get up there and figure out what was going on with it. Standing on the ladder in that cold garage, he just said he could hear the motor growling but it just would not budge.
So I called a claim in. Usually, I find that if you call it in, you really get a technician much sooner. The guy was out there within two hours. I was very pleased with that. He showed up early and was decent, polite and worked really hard. With that kind of job, you gotta have your hands free to be putting an installation in that weather with no gloves or anything on. AHS has gotta give him kudos for, number one, showing up so early, and number two, just being that kind of work out in the cold and then still being very pleasant and doing a good job. It has been a couple of weeks since he put it in and so far, all is well.
It’s very nice to have a plan like this in cases like this garage door opener in the dead of winter or that one time when we had a hot water heater go which more than paid for the $500 we pay for in a year. We've moved quite a bit in the last 15 years and AHS has been a really good, solid plan. It's the best insurance, to spend 75 bucks a month for overall insurance of your home.

My client's furnace quit and I helped him file a claim for it with American Home Shield since he doesn't speak English very well. We did it online but initially, I was not impressed with how you navigate their website. I had to call them to figure out how to put the claim in. Apparently, I have to go all the way to the bottom of their page in order to make a claim. AHS' website should have something on the top of the page. All it does on the first page is to try and get me to buy a warranty from them which is not helpful for people who are trying to make a claim. But the repair company came out the next day. They replaced one thing but that didn't work. They then replaced another thing. The third time they came out, they put in two new pieces in the unit. The repair company was very efficient, stayed in contact with me and answered questions. American Home Shield was excellent.

Our icemaker wasn’t functioning well. We reported that to American Home Shield over the phone. Their rep took the request and she said that they would have an email sent to me for the company that they would assign to me. The serviceman from Home Pro Refrigeration and Appliance came over to my place. He looked at it and diagnosed the problem. He had it recorded on his tablet and said that the icemaker was damaged. He said that they would replace the icemaker then I signed over that on his tablet. We also mentioned about the stovetop and he looked at the knobs on the stove and said that they were gonna replace them too. A month went by and nothing happened.
A lady came back two weeks later and told me that we’d have to have the stovetop knobs available for them to look at. It wasn't good, either. The stovetop knob was broken and we threw it away. We had no idea that we had to keep them. Since we couldn’t keep them and have them available, then we cannot claim for them. A month went by and nobody came back again. I had to call back to AHS and asked them what is going on with the claim. The lady told me that nothing was sent to them from the company and I find that surprising. She had me on the phone when she called the company but she said that she couldn’t get through the company. She told me to wait 24 hours for a rep from the company to get back to me. But no one did. It was terrible customer service, and yet I pay the service fee every time. It was just a bad experience.
Good afternoon Rogers,
Your concerns are understood regarding the delay in service to have the ice maker and stove repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I was able to talk to an American representative and they refunded the money. I just had to show the sales contract. I still feel their processes need to be made better. Up until the last person I spoke to, no one ever said that if I could show them the sales contract and that I if no longer owned the home, they would refund the fees. The attitude was that there was nothing they could do except cancel the current month’s payment. Also, a simple way to cancel and remove my CC details from them online would make a big difference. It all feels like a way to make it hard to leave. I am glad they refunded the money, but they also never should have charged me for that.

I used them for several years. Their service was good and we did get a few things covered by them, though there was a lot we usually had to pay, including a 75 charge just for someone to show up and look at an issue, which is the same as calling a contractor directly. The real problem is that I sold my home in October of 2017. I am sure I called them then to cancel and they said they would but not until the contract expired in Feb 2018. This did not happen. They renewed it. They said they have no record of my call and that there was nothing they could do.
Now it is Feb 2019 and again they say I never called them and never canceled. They just told me that they can now cancel it, but actually it is not a cancellation until their retention department talks to me (to try to talk me into another contract). They said they could not send me an email confirmation of this cancellation, so they can just go on saying I never canceled. It's like a scam, which has cost me about 800 so far and I have still not managed to get it canceled. I have to wait for a call from their retention department. There is no way to cancel online or to remove your credit card online. Beware!

They faxed or emailed the repair status and parts for AHS to approve but they faxed or emailed blank papers. They were called by AHS to to call it in. Never happened and they won't return calls. Ok experience if everything goes well. Terrible experience if something goes off the happy path. Multiple instances where I put in a claim and then encountered an issue. And that’s when the nightmares begin. For instance, I had an issue with my furnace and they came out. The issue was the sometimes the furnace would turn on but blow cold air. Not only did they not fix the previous issue, but they broke something else. An hour after they left I noticed the house was extremely hot and found out that even though the thermostat was off the heat kept blowing. Spent countless hours already trying to get someone to understand this, but their customer service folks have a limited grasp of the English language and terrible training so I can’t get anyone to come back out to fix what they broke. They just say they already came out for the original issue and they can’t fix the original issue. In reality I don’t even care about the original issue. I just want them to fix what they broke!!!

This is the second time I had a horrible experience with AHS. It came free with the home I purchased, haven't even own the home for 4 months and I had to refer to this warranty company (SAVE YOUR MONEY DON'T WASTE IT ON THEM ). My heater completely went. Called multiple times cause you can never get thru. Put a request in online, I was told a contractor would reach me in 24 business hours with no heat on a cold day, called a contractor that came out immediately and told me my heat exchanger was cracked so I referred that to the home warranty that they put a rush for one of their contractors to come out. This was on a Thursday.
Friday one of their contractors called and said they couldn't come out until Monday, 4 days now without heat, the contractor called me Monday when they were supposed to arrive and said they are short handed and couldn't come. AHS sent another contractor, they confirmed already what we had examine from a reputable company and said AHS would contact me cause I need a new heater. The heater is covered however no modifications are to put the new heater in so you are still going to get hit over the head for at least 1000.00-2000.00 and not only that you have to wait several more days before they can do it. It is February and with 3 children, this is unacceptable. Upon calling AHS, I am beyond frustrated.
They advised me that the company had not properly completed any of their required diagnostic updates. They tried to contact the company without success. And the ever so sweet customer service rep instructed me to call back tomorrow. Wow. What an utterly horrible group. Do not select AHS as a warranty company. I have been dealing with a broken furnace for some time due to the fact that AHS will not select a reputable contractor. The initial contractor, Rapps Heating and Air (Rapps), inspected the furnace in April of 2018. During that service call, Rapps determined one of the furnace parts did not function properly. Rapps did not actually come back to repair the part until 6 months later in October 2018. AHS actually tried to charge the service fee again even though I had already paid for that visit. Since the furnace is still not functioning, I recently requested service on the furnace. Once again Rapps was selected by AHS to perform the service.
At this point I contacted AHS to request a different contractor. AHS stated that this was the only contractor in the local area. My home (location of the Furnace) is Shelby, NC. Rapps is located over an hour away. There are other qualified contractors located a much shorter distance away in both Shelby and Gastonia. Regardless, AHS insists upon using Rapps. Once Rapps completed the most recent diagnostic, they stated I needed a new furnace. However, Rapps outlined each of the items that would not be covered by AHS and each item for which I would be responsible. I did some more research and half of the items are not required by any local (Shebly, NC) code. Rapps falsely stated these items were required by 'code' and they also tried to charge me $400 dollars for a permit when the permit is only $50 dollars (City and County Clerk Office, Shelby, NC).
After I did this research, I contacted AHS to request either a different vendor or to pay the amount that is the actuary average to complete the furnace replacement. I spoke with Latonya **, and she indicated that AHS would place Rapps on the 'do not' use vendor list for me, and that AHS would locate another vendor to service the repair. Ms. ** was going to discuss this matter with another department and get back with me in 2 hours. This phone conversation took place on Wednesday, February 20 at 6:17 am Mountain Standard Time. I have yet to receive a return call from Ms. **.
In our conversations, Ms. ** stated she would get another vendor to do the diagnostic and repair. AHS sent another vendor to look at the furnace. This new vendor confirmed the replacement was necessary. However, this vendor stated the items needed to be modified or changed were different than those outlined by Rapps. The new total price was also $493 Dollars less than Rapps statement of charges. Secondly, I was informed that AHS would be liable for a little over $1,000 dollars of the repair if I chose to utilize this new vendor. The new contractor informed me that AHS should contact me to discuss further steps.
I contacted AHS who stated they would provide the COD for the second vendor. I have the entire chat on record. However, AHS now states that I HAVE TO USE the first vendor; even though I already have proof of, and have contacted local authorities regarding the fraud Rapps is committing. Rapps is not welcome in my home. I have had independent contractors that are licensed, bonded and insured and those contractors have stated affirmatively that the furnace needs to be replaced and that the only item needing to be replaced is the furnace itself and the corresponding flue. I believe AHS is STILL participating in Bad Faith Insurance practices and litigation will be required if AHS continues to refuse/not honor AHS's (Ms. **'s) statement allowing use of a different vendor. I believe AHS and AHS's contractors are behaving unethically and may be guilty of fraudulent activities.

Had an electrical problem that was supposedly fixed for an exterior outlet. The electrician came and shoved the cord in harder and said it's fixed. Next time I used the outlet, it was past a magical 60 days that was 'in my contract'. I used the electrical trimmer in the outlet in the Fall and then next used it 4 months later when I realized the outlet was not working again. AHS said they could only have someone go out there for an 'additional service fee'. I would have to pay $75 for each service visit.
They offered to have a new provider come by instead of prior electrician but would still have to pay the $75 because it was past the 60 days. The response was, 'it was in your contract." It seems like not much money to pay $75 but it is the principle of not standing behind an issue and service company given varying circumstances. I know I should have checked it at 59 days but with both of us being busy professionals plus 2 kids, who have limited time to pay attention to everything. Some understanding of the situation would have been nice. In the end, you get what you pay for and AHS in not worth it.

However, it was a hit or miss with some of the other ones who came out.

The gas company told me that my gas was out and whenever they went to turn my gas on, there was a leak. I thought that you would want equipment to see if that’s where the leak is. AHS sent out a second person and the person verified that there was a leak but didn’t determine where the leak was coming from. We’ve used American Home Shield often over a period of about 20 years and they are a great provider. When I had a rental house many years ago, they had to replace several systems and they even put in new duct work. That’s huge. When you own a home or a rental property, you can’t afford $7,000 here or $10,000 there. So, it’s really a wonderful service to have.
However, every business has its issues. It really depends on the contractor that they send out. We had a leak in a shower. The first time I reported the problem, the guy who was sent out didn’t have what he needed and came at 6:45 in the evening. The second time that provider came out, he didn’t fix it totally, so I had to call him back a third time. That’s when I requested Hudgens Plumbing. The company had done plumbing for us several years ago, so I called them up and asked them if they were still a provider for AHS and they said yes. I then called American Home Shield back and asked them to send Hudgens Plumbing out. The tech from Hudgens Plumbing was able to fix the shower completely and did an excellent job. So, they didn’t fix it, and I was out of 75 bucks. I also filed a claim with AHS online when my HVAC wasn’t blowing hot air. I had AHS set up an appointment, and they sent someone from Ice Cube Air. The technician came and he went up on the roof. He determined that it was the motor for the HVAC. He replaced the motor and then went on his way.
When submitting a claim with AHS over the phone, the wait is extremely long. If they have a callback, that would be nice. I prefer submitting my claims online because of the wait to get to the representative. Also, navigating through their website is easy. It asks me what exactly the issue is and I push whichever breaks it down.

I used to call American Home Shield for my claims and it's usually a long time. One time, we had an issue with our air and the people that came out said that they had to get approval from AHS before they could fix it. After about a couple of days and we haven't heard from the people, we tried to call AHS and I waited 40 minutes to get to somebody. The wait time is just crazy. They should have an option where you don't have to wait as much if it was something about an order that's already put in.
And then, I had a problem where my toilet was just making running noise but the water wasn't getting back into the commode, and filed my claim online. It's easy to do that online but I don't like doing so. I have a couple of companies that I don't like to use since I've had bad experiences with them, and when I do the claims online, it just assigns me somebody. For instance, we've had bad experiences with Tiger Plumbing but AHS sent Tiger Plumbing for my toilet even though they're supposed to be on our do not use list. But we had a good experience with them this time.
They called us beforehand to see what was going on, which was a good thing. From the conversation, he knew what was wrong so when he came he must've run by the shop to get the part. Then when he looked, it was indeed what he thought was wrong. He was only here for 10 minutes and did a simple repair, and he had fixed the problem instead of having to come out and find what's wrong, and then go back to the shop and come back.

We have had American Home Shield for almost a year and my first call to them was for a heating issue. I had no heat and it was not holding temperature so I called up for a service guy to come out. I wanted them to check the ducts and the heating system. All my vents are in the floor and some appear to be blowing cold air and some did not. So, the guy came and checked the inside system. Everything was okay and then he went outside. He said it may or may not need some Freon but it was hard to tell because it was cold out and that it looks like it probably just needed a cleaning.
I told him it had been cleaned over the summer. He told me that since I have dogs and with the dog hair and stuff, it was gonna be nice that weekend to buy awesome stuff from Family Dollar and have it sprayed there and hose the outside system. I did all that and then, I did not have heat again. I was not super impressed with the guy that came, just because he was like “Well, clean it yourself. Rock on.” So, I called my old guy who came in. He said that it was hard to tell about the Freon when it’s cold and he told me to let him put a pound in which cost me $80. He also asked if the house was ever checked. I told him it was not so he went to look under in the crawlspace. The main trunk line duct was lying on the ground so, he put it back up.
He was a great guy and very reasonable. But I figured that I have the home warranty so I would use it. I asked him but he said that he was not part of it and it was cool. So, I called Home Shield, and I dealt with the other customer service girls who were all like midgets out of Thailand. They were saying that I was looking to get my deductible of $106.75 back because the guys didn’t really do anything and they certainly didn’t diagnose the problem. It went on for a couple of weeks. They kept telling me that they have to get a work order from the company that came. They also said that they were not required to supply it because it wasn’t over X amount of dollars and they had to request it.
It went on for two weeks until finally, somebody verbally gave them a work order over the phone. Then, the midget from Thailand told me to send her copies of the bill from the guy who repaired it. I told them I got a picture of the main trunk line lying down on the crawlspace and I had been trying to get to them for three weeks. I was told to send it to her. I did that about two weeks and as soon as I sent that through email at, I got an automated response that said it could take up to something like 61 days to review my claim and that is where I’m at right now.
I didn’t realize I was gonna have a problem when the technicians left and I signed off on their little cellphone and to think that I’ve been heating my crawlspace for two weeks. I knew I had a major issue because I was spending $50 a day in electric. So, $500 worth of electric later, I knew it was more than a dirty system. I just wish to get a hold of those midgets from Thailand and get this ball rolling on, whether or not I can get my $106 deductible back.

For the heat pump claim, my AC system outside was making a loud noise. The techs came and serviced my pump. However, they had to order a part and it took them about a week. Still, the tech was professional. He wore his little coverall boots so he wouldn’t get any dirt or anything on my carpet. He told me exactly what he was gonna do and told me about the part that was being ordered. Also, the tech had to put the heat on emergency heat. He said it’s so that the heat pump outside wouldn’t damage any other part by continuing to run. I've had AHS since 1997 and I like the convenience of their warranty if something goes wrong. I can just pick up the phone, call them and their contractors come right out. What I don't like about the service is the $125 but in the long run, it has been worth it.

We had some leaky faucets and toilets that wouldn’t flush, and Pipe Solutions corrected everything. I submitted my claim with American Home Shield online and the process was very easy. I got a response within 24 hours. The contractor's service was great and he was very professional. He explained everything and told us exactly what he needed to do. He had to come back because he had to order some parts. And he was early. Everything is fixed now.

I had an issue under my sink and I thought it was my disposal. I called in to American Home Shield to submit the claim and I told the representative what I thought the problem was. It was a Friday when I called in and unfortunately, they weren’t able to send anybody over the weekend so they said Monday. On Sunday, I was contacted by the plumbers, which was nice, and when they came out, they were early. There were two gentlemen and when they went to the sink and looked, the issue wasn’t the disposal. They took all the pipes apart and figured out that it was just a really bad clog. They knew what to do, got it done within half an hour and put everything back together. They were very professional and it was perfect.
But I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 19 years now and my issue with them is that every year, my monthly fee goes up. So does the copay. When we first went with American Home Shield, it was $40 for someone to come to my house. Now, it is $80 and it is around $60 that they take out from my bank account every month. I was talking about this with a co-worker who has left her previous provider and found another one and she is paying a lot less than I am now. There are other options out there. There was even an offer where if you pay for two years, the provider would give her the 3rd year for free.
Still, I like knowing that I have the warranty. I don’t have to sit here, go through the phone book and choose something. I could be picking anybody and I don’t know if they are licensed. I figured American Home Shield does all the legwork and has already weaned out the good and the bad. They take care of all that for me and they are usually good about getting somebody out here.

The service provided by the contractor was superb. They were professional on the phone and were timely. I also liked their follow through and their follow-up. The appliance was fixed and it has been fine since.

I have filed claims with American Home Shield on several items. One was the stove, then a ceiling fan, an exhaust fan in the bathroom, and the garage door opener. I submitted my claims over the phone, but I don’t think the reps knew what they were talking about or what they were doing. I come from the construction field, so I told them what the issues were and explained these to them. They always took my $100 or $50 deposit, and they said that I was good to go. But then, when the techs showed up, they said that the issue was routine maintenance. But if the problem was not fixed, then it would cost more damage to the property. There have been instances when AHS took my deposit but did nothing. Nevertheless, the appliances that the techs were able to fix were good to go. With AHS, though, I’ve got to where I wait till I have six items and then I call them. At least, if they fix one or two items, then it's worth what it would cost for that deductible.
The garage door opener was fixed because that was 100% broken. My ceiling fan in the garage was also done. But then, with my exhaust fan, the guy even said that he could hear it whining off and on which means it had a bad bearing. But he said that if he replaced it then, that would be considered as maintenance and won’t be covered by my warranty, even though it would be completely out in the next five months. The contractors more or less agree with my stance, but it’s one of those situations that you just beat your head up against the wall. AHS should be more proactive in fixing broken stuff and not wait until it’s 100% broken since a bearing can heat up, melt stuff, and cause a fire.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield has been pretty good. I had a couple of claims with them. The ice maker in my refrigerator went out. My washer and my dishwasher were out too. I normally call AHS for my claims and it's easy. The only thing I do is follow up with whoever they have. They kinda take who they have in the area and I go with somebody that we know has a good reference. For my most recent claims, Bell's Appliance Service was sent out and their attitude overall was great. They were professionals. They came out here quickly and for the most part, the problems were resolved in one visit. It was done fairly quickly too. They came back to fix the icemaker when the parts came in. I had a leaky faucet and submitted a claim with them online. As soon as I clicked send for my request, I got a date and a time that somebody was gonna call me back, and they did. AHS's contractors call me within 24 hours. I called today for another leaky faucet and immediately I got a response with the name of the company that will be calling me. Burleson, one of American Home Shield's contractors, did a very good job of taking care of my problem and I had no issues with them. However, I had a problem with Total Air. The tech said there were things that needed to be done to the heater/air conditioner that were not necessary. I had it looked at an independent air conditioning company here in Gainesville. I tried to pay them the service fee, and the guy said that was already been prepaid which he already did with what he turned in to AHS. He even wrote “Pre-paid” on my receipt. But now, I’m getting a bill from AHS saying that my account is past due because of a service fee that wasn’t paid to Total Air.
Of all the technicians that I’ve had out here, there have only been two of them who were very disheartening, and one being the Total Air gentleman, Chris. And there was also a gentleman a few years ago who came out to service my washing machine and said he came all the way from Jacksonville and asked me if I could give him money for gas to get home, which I thought was inappropriate.
Also, there have been instances when it has taken forever to get people out here and then people calling and rescheduling. One company took three rescheduling times. The guy’s car broke down on Interstate. It was raining, and he couldn't work in the rain. And then the third time, he came and while he had just gotten out of the car, barely started, not even enough to get his clothes wet, and again, he said couldn’t work in the rain and that I had to reschedule which would've made it a fourth time.

I was having problems with a well pump so AHS sent a contractor and they did a great job. I filed the claim online on Sunday. By Monday, I had a phone call, and the contractor was there on Wednesday. The contractors were responsive, were professional and were friendly. They were helpful when they came out. The contractor knew right away what the problem was, so did I, though. The retention tank has a baffle in it or a bladder in it that was bad. It was 15 years old. After the repair I got water again.
The warranty takes care of anything that's major that would cost a lot of money to repair. It's also nice to have them come out and replace a faucet or something like that. But you worry about things like furnaces and that sort of thing and the warranty reduces any major out-of-pocket expenses for things like that. I'd recommend American Home Shield. It's a great organization I've had great experience with. I've had it for 18 months now. I had another warranty company that I was completely dissatisfied with. My icemaker was frosting up and I had replaced that icemaker when the refrigerator was on warranty about eight months ago. So, I was really surprised when it started causing problems again. Filing a claim for it online with American Home Shield was easy and straightforward though a phone option would be nice. The first person who came out was from Sears Repair. The problem was that to fix it was gonna be more than just to replace it. Their tech said that somebody would be calling about a replacement. This company called ACN Appliance Sales called and came out the very next day which I appreciated. Their tech said that he got all the information and said that they'd have to see if a part was available, which on Hawaii Island, is always an issue.
It was not too long though. In less than a week, he called and said the installer would call to pick up the part. Then, the installer came right out and I was really happy because when it went out before when it was on a five-year Lowe’s home warranty, it took about four weeks for them to get the part. The installer from ACN was very careful because it was still iced over. He used a steamer which I thought was clever and carefully melted the ice. He didn’t damage other parts. He was careful with my floor because it's laminate. I really appreciated their care and they really did a nice job. They also communicated well, which here on the island sometimes is an issue. I am having trouble again with the icemaker, however. It's icing up again, so I have to call them. Other than that issue, AHS' service really worked and it has been timely.

American Home Shield is very good, professional and quick to solve the problem. I had an issue late December and because of the holiday the contractor couldn’t come up to check. I had water leaking under my sink. I also had a problem with the showerhead in one of my sons' bathroom. But as soon as the contractor came in, he took a look at it and figured out the garbage disposal needed to be replaced.
Then, this month, I had water leaking under the sink again. It went down to the basement. It was awful because we didn’t know what happened. I thought "Did the air conditioning get blocked up?” I tried to pinpoint what happened until I came upstairs and thought I'd take a look under the sink, even though there shouldn’t be anything and there was water all over. I thought it had something to do with before, but it didn’t really get worse until this month. When the person came, he figured out that the hose spray for the faucet in the kitchen was loose. He tightened it up. He said that hopefully, it wouldn’t happen again. But showed how to tighten the spray thing for the faucet.
At the very beginning, I had a hard time submitting claims. When I call, I get sent all over the place or put on hold and I have to keep on explaining things. So I decided to go online and talk to someone. And boom, I got in touch with somebody and they took care of it. It was not like they didn’t do their job, but AHS is a big company and they deal with a lot of people and I don’t have enough patience.
I’ve been learning since I joined AHS last year. Some other company I signed up for does preventive maintenance for the air conditioning and heating. But AHS doesn't. Even though they send me the information on how I can do it myself, I’m gonna mess up somewhere so I’d rather just get the professional do that. So I signed up with the other company to have them do the preventive maintenance and then if I have some problem with the air conditioning then I’d contact AHS.

My first time using my warranty, and it has been awful and a waste of money. My hot water heater started leaking. Technician was sent out who states it's unrepairable and needs to be replaced. States his company only uses "commercial" products and manufacturers that require an expansion tank. Therefore I need to pay almost $600 to their company (not covered by AHS) for an expansion tank and plumbing modifications to meet manufacturer's warranty requirements. This is not a code requirement in my county, which the tech also stated, it's a manufacturer requirement for their preferred product. They would not do the work unless I agreed to this. I called AHS and asked for someone else as I wanted a like product replacement, a standard 50 gallon water heater, no expansion tank requirement.
They told me they would not pay for another person to come out and my only option is a cashout, where I hire someone myself and pay myself. I requested to know the quote. They called me back with a quote of $373 was their offer to pay for the 50 gallon hot water heater and labor, installation, etc...total. I again requested a replacement of a like product, 50 gallon tank without expansion tank since codes do not require it, and it is not what I currently have, any brand would do. I was denied. 3 phone calls later I am told that other companies (other than the one who came to my home) use AHS as their purchaser/supplier for water heaters and if I wanted to pay a service fee again out of pocket for them to send someone else who uses AHS as their supplier I could pay, but that purchasing would base product purchase off of what's available in my area.
I said, "Okay, let's call purchasing and see what products are available in my area so that we know if it's a product/manufacturer that requires an expansion tank, prior to making that service call so that I know if it's a waste of money." Apparently that's impossible, because the only way purchasing can look that up is if they are ordering at the same time. BS. I have gotten nowhere. They are in violation of contract terms of replacement of a like product. What a pain, but I guess legal is my only other option. I asked to speak to someone higher on 2 of these calls and was told there is no one else to talk to because they are authorization agents. So disappointing.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I have an American Home Shield Warranty and contacted them on February 7, 2019 regarding a broken dryer. I was charged the $75 call fee when the service was requested. A repairman from Suretec Appliance was sent out on February 13, 2019. He said the dryer needed a new heating element and the part would have to be ordered and should take about a week. I tried contacting Suretec on February 15, 2019. No one answered and the recording said the mailbox was full. I contacted American Home Shield, and spent over an hour trying to reach AHS, and explained the situation to the customer service rep. AHS said that they had no information regarding the ordering of a part. I continued trying to contact Suretec several times a day for the next several days and received NO response.
I called AHS back on Monday, February 18 and they supposedly contacted Suretec and the Suretec rep said that the technician had gotten sick last week but she would get with him and get the part ordered. I also asked AHS to have Suretec call me and Suretec never did. On Friday, February 22, I began trying to contact Suretec again to no avail. I then called AHS again and they were also unable to reach Suretec but said they would send them an email. AHS also gave me Suretec's emergency number and no one answered and I could not leave a voicemail.
On Monday, February 25, I began trying to call Suretec again with no answer and no ability to leave a voicemail since the mailbox was full. I once again called AHS and they were unable to reach Suretec. Each time I have contacted AHS I have requested to speak to a manager and I have been put on hold for over an hour with no manager ever coming to the phone. They also charged me three more $75 service fees and I'm still waiting for them to refund those fees. It has been 18 days since I first contacted AHS and my dryer is no closer to being fixed and no one is handling it.
When I first got my warranty back in April of 2018, they were much more responsive but for the last 4 months, you have to wait an hour or more to speak to a customer service rep and they aren't even helpful when you do get to speak to someone. They're simply reading from a script, saying the same thing every time you call, and you cannot get any resolution. This warranty is a waste of money. After having AHS warranty for 7 years my AC broke in my rental property in June of 2018. AHS dispatched a contractor for the repair who first said it needed a computer, this did not fix the problem so the contractor told AHS it was an electrical problem. AHS then sent an electrician who said there is no electrical problem. Then AHS dispatched the AC contractor who initially came out and they said the AC was broke because rats had eaten the duct work (which even a noneducated person for AC repairs understands is BS).
Therefore, AHS made me request a second opinion for which I would be charged if same diagnosis. Then the 2nd AC contractor came out and diagnosed the AC problem was a bad blower. But they ordered the wrong Blower and this added another 3 weeks to the repair. This all took 3 months from June to August without having AC during the summer in Florida before repair was completed. During this time I had to make over 20 calls and spent over 20 hours on the phone with AHS and their contractors and AHS would simply hang up on me on the phone whenever they decided they didn't want to help. AHS will also never call you back if you get disconnected over the phone even if they tell you they will.
So now it's Feb 2019 and my AC broke again. AHS has taken a week to diagnose the problem and of course doesn't call me back or ever provide you with an update. Every time you call AHS you have to hold on the phone for a minimum of an hour to get service and if they hang up on you they never call you back. I will never get another home warranty from AHS. This company has terrible customer service and AHS' only goal is to collect your policy premium and avoid repairs. They say they will fix or replace covered it's in your home and that is a right out lie.
Therefore you should run away from anyone who offers you or Coldwell banker if they try to sell you an AHS home warranty. The service is horrible and they don't try to repair but rather try to avoid repairing any of your problems hoping you give up and go buy another appliance or repair your problem without using their worthless policy. Never ever purchase an AHS home warranty and don't believe the bs they tell you about being rated the best home warranty company because it's all lies just like their service... Don't work with AHS. You've been warned.
Good morning C.Michael,
Your concerns are understood regarding the several air conditioner repairs that were completed. I would be glad to speak with you and assist with getting the issues resolved.
