I called American Home Shield to submit a claim when the belt of my washing machine had come off. The first time the technician from TrueVine Appliance came, he put the belt back on and it lasted for almost a month. Then, the belt came back off again so I had to call for them to come the second time for the same issue. A second technician came and noticed that it looked like the belt might’ve had some weak spots or some grooves in it. He replaced the belt and since then, it has been doing fine. Also, the interactions I had with their technicians had been great.
However, I was advised that there wouldn’t be an additional service charge if the second call was for the same problem. But, when I checked yesterday, American Home Shield is still showing that I didn’t pay the fee. I have called a couple of times and they told me that they were gonna clear it up and take it off. After the first call, I even got a letter stating that I was past due on that fee. It shouldn’t have been a charge because it was a revisit with them in the time frame for the same problem. Despite that, their customer service has been great and it's been a good experience with American Home Shield.

I just purchased a house and I wanted new keys. I requested for a claim with American Home Shield online and about 15 minutes later, Pop-A-Lock called. Ten minutes later, their guy was here and he was great. He came, explained everything that had to be done, gave me a couple of different options based on what I wanted to be done, and did the work. He did a really good job. It was really simple and very easy.

Every time I call to place a service order I end up spending over an hour on the phone. They always say the things I am calling is not covered by them even though they fixed it few months ago. The people who are answering the call are like robots. They do not hear a thing you tell me. They just keep on reading. This is a waste of money to get. I paid over $800 for year and is nothing but frustration. I will never renew it with them ever again.

I called this company on February 5, 2019 to cancel my policy and was told it would be cancelled but that someone from their company would have to call me to verify the cancellation. I was also told there would be no more payments and indeed the debit to my bank account stopped. I never received a phone call from anyone at AHS. In early March I received a past-due notice from the company that I owed the February and March payments. I called their customer service again and was told my policy was marked for cancellation on 2/5/19 but that it had not been successfully cancelled and wouldn't be until someone from their company called me to confirm. This is March 19, 2019 and I've received no phone call nor any message from anyone at AHS.
Today I received another notice of past-due notice and this time the message said if I didn't make the payment, they would have to pursue collection. I've just hung up from their customer service AGAIN, and the consultant said she would submit the request to cancel again and to have the past-due charges removed. She offered that she would be back at work on Saturday, 3/23, and would check to see if everything went through and would call me. At this point I have absolutely zero confidence that either of these things will happen. I only had this policy a few months and decided I just didn't want the expense of it. I've never experienced anything like this before in trying to cancel a policy.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I have been without a washing machine since February 23, 2019. AHS sent out two different repair companies, neither of which could do the repairs, the parts were no longer available. The last repair company told me that the AHS rep on the phone said they would be replacing my washer. This was on Saturday, March 16, 2019 and I'm still waiting to be contacted to see how to go about getting a new washer. I tried to call yesterday to talk to someone but the wait on the phone was over 45 minutes. I was unable to wait 45 minutes on the phone and wasn't given the option of having them call me back after the initial greeting. By the time I was able to call back, their service center was closed for the day. I am currently waiting on a call back from them to complete my service call. According to the website, it indicates my call has been completed, and it has not.

I do want everyone to know that this company is the worst. The technician they sent out from United Air Temp told me right off the bat that it would be better to replace my system and it would cost me 8k. He said AHS would never approve it. I called AHS several times, getting hung up on. I cancelled my warranty with them based on this experience. Being they never fixed the issue, it should have been covered by the warranty regardless until the issue was resolved. They said it was no longer covered since I terminated the policy. I paid for it through until they closed the ticket, marking it as completed.
Regardless, this company marked my repair as complete. They did nothing. He is welcome to come over and spend the night when I have no heat. I am bringing my father to my home for Hospice care and need to have AC and heat. This company is the WORST with everything from contacting them, follow through and honoring their coverage. I wouldn't trust them with a toaster repair.

We bought a new house and got an American Home Shield warranty. We made a claim when our dryer stopped heating and our oven did not work. I submitted it via the website and navigating through it was pretty easy. Josh’s Appliance Repair came out to look at our dryer and range. So far, the range is fixed, but the oven is not repaired yet. They had to find the part. They have brought a part out, but that part wasn't what they needed. Now, I'm waiting for another part.

I’ve had American Home Shield for about 24 years and I got it on two homes. My homeowners insurance guy introduced me to it and I’ve always found it to be a good deal. Sometimes, they would rule based on underwriting on what they approve so you have to get involved and talk to them a bit. They’re very mechanical and they go through a flowchart, but a flowchart doesn’t explain everything so you have to work with them to help them understand. Sometimes, I spend too much time on the phone with them trying to get stuff taken care of and it’s hard to get a live person, but they’re getting better. They’re also confused about their own policies sometimes, but overall, they've come through. I recommend them to other people all the time.
I called them when our water filter system was leaking and I asked them to send someone out right away. At first, they said it would be a day. I got no toilet and I couldn’t turn the water back because it would leak all over the house. So, then they got the guy out there, and within a half an hour, he fixed it. And it was great. The guy that they sent out had been out before and he was pretty sharp. Sometimes we get guys that aren’t as experienced, but they guarantee their work. A couple of times, there were people who couldn't fix our issues because they didn't have the resources, and AHS would put someone else out there.
It's just frustrating that a lot of times, for my lake home up North, I gotta find and pay the person, then AHS will reimburse me. It's a pain in the butt considering the amount of time I have to spend finding somebody -- just for me to get on the phone or on the internet for it. It’s hard to find people in remote areas, and then this fall, the guy that did the work screwed me. I couldn’t get him to stand by his work. I paid him and AHS paid me, but the issue still needed more work. So, I had to call AHS back and tell them to open up the issue again. I also told them to send someone out because the other guys didn’t do things right. And AHS did it. So overall, I find AHS to be one of my good vendors that I use. And when something works, I stick with it.

The washing machine didn't work and was making a horrible noise, so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I can file a claim with them very easily. I'm used to using AHS whenever I need them which is not frequent. But in this case, the claim got messed up. Somehow, the initial company that came out didn't have the service call down as a request coming from AHS. Instead, they had it down as a personal request so they were gonna charge me. So, we waited to try to get the matter sorted out with their calling AHS, but they never could so they went away.
I called AHS back and that's when they sent another contractor, First Call. First Call was terrific. Everything about them was wonderful and I would recommend them to friends. The repair was easy and not a big deal. A coupler had to be replaced. I've had AHS for years and I've had them for two houses. They've always performed usually very well and sometimes just adequately. But overall, they've been good at what they do.
Hi, Melinda. I apologize that you had an issue with how the request was initially placed but glad to know it was straightened out and that the contractor met your expectations. Thank you for your positive feedback.

I wasn’t getting any heat with the air conditioner and it was making a lot of noise. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. Trying to call them was impossible. I couldn't get through. It was a waste of time even trying to call them, so I was basically forced to go online to get it done. Their response time was great nonetheless. The contractor that came out was a real good guy. He had everything taken apart and then diagnosed the problem, and it was done. However, AHS took almost a week to get the compressor that was needed. The contractor had one but AHS wouldn’t let him use his parts so he had to order it from AHS, which I wasn’t too thrilled about.
The contractor had to come back on a fan because the fan motor went out. I don't know if that was part of the original problem, but they replaced the compressor and the noise was good then. However, a day later, the screeching started back up. It was like an intermittent type thing. But the bearings were shut in the fan and the air conditioner is fine now. I just happened to pay $500 for the Freon which was ridiculously priced and that shouldn’t happen. The other companies that do the same service don’t charge for the Freon. That was my only complaint

I’m in a condominium complex and I’m in a lower unit. So, my dryer vent attaches to a ceiling pipe that’s coming out. The tech who came had to put a new heating element in my dryer because my dryer wasn’t drying. The unit was moved, the tech put it back, and everything was fine. However, the dryer vent became unattached to its ceiling pipe. My son-in-law came and he tried to fix it as best he could but then I thought I would just call American Home Shield and hopefully, they could take care of it.
I spoke to Kevin and he set up an appointment. I waited for them to contact me and they did. However, they said that they couldn’t repair it. I called AHS back and I spoke to Eloise. I used to work in customer service, so I know you really have to pay attention to people sometimes. There were times where I would ask Eloise a question and I would hear nothing on her end. I'd then go, "Eloise, are you still there?” and she would say yes. I didn't know what she was doing on her end of the phone but it sounded like we were disconnected. AHS should put people who speak better English and who are understandable on the phone. Eloise was very hard to understand but she said she was gonna look into it and get back to me. So, she called me today and let me know that the vent was not covered in the policy. I told her that when it comes to renewal, I’ll have to consider whether I wanna go with American Home Shield again.
I was under the impression that they were gonna be able to fix my vent, but I found out that they’re gonna give me my credit back. I ended up calling and reaching out to another technician to see if they could squeeze me in to get my dryer vent attached properly. Then, I had a stoppage in my sink. AHS called a company out and the gentleman who came was so sweet and nice. He got the sink cleared up. He also told me that there was a 6-month warranty on it. I didn't know that and in fact, when I spoke to Kevin about the warranty, he said that I just missed the 60-day warranty.
When we bought our vacation home in Big Bear, one of my neighbors said to go with American Home Shield, and I did. I've had several claims with them and every one of them has been wonderful. Technicians come out and they take care of the problem. I've been impressed with AHS but I am a little disappointed and I probably will look for another company, for the next time around, that will do a vent because you never know.

We thought there was something majorly wrong with our washer as it was making some crazy sounds. It also had a crazy smell, so we thought there might be something wrong with the motor in it. A tech then came and checked it out, and it ended up being fine. We’ve been using it ever since. We had good interaction with American Home Shield's rep, and even though we did not end up doing a claim, things worked out well with a quick service.

I do my claims with AHS online, but the latest time, I called a claim in for my hot water heater that went out. It was after hours and I did the prompt. The people that they referred to be in the home took a week to get me on the schedule that they'd get out to my house to even look at it. And then it took them almost another week to get everything. They got everything ordered that night through AHS. But the total time from when I called to when I got hot water was close to about 12 and a half days and it was also winter time. So, that kinda sucked. But I'm sure everybody was busy and the contractors were great. I've had AHS for three and a half years and I haven't had any issues. They could lower down my initial fee for sending somebody out, but other than that, all my experiences were good. I've called and I get the responses through American Home Shield. They've done exactly what I would hope.

The dispenser on the icemaker broke so I filed a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online and the website was friendly. The tech came out, saw what it was and ordered the part. The part came in but it wasn’t the right part. He ordered another one with the tray attached to it and it fit perfectly. The reps were very, very nice and very helpful. The gentleman that came out and fixed the problem was very pleasant. I had another claim on my air conditioner and that went good too. I have been with American Home Shield for 15 years. When I submit a claim, I do it over the phone. And while their customer service is very good, they could have better English speaking people that you can talk to. I have bad hearing and when I speak to somebody that speaks broken English, I can't understand what they're saying sometimes. Other than that, I've been very pleased with the technicians they've sent out. Most recently, I had an appliance issue and the tech from Allstar Appliance came and gave great information. Another guy diagnosed it being a rubber boot. But then, he realized that it was the tub. It got broken and it has to be replaced. He told me how much he estimated it would cost to repair it, considering what it would cost to have a new one. Allstar Appliance sent the information back to American Home Shield and they honored my request to replace it.

I am concerned about the drains in my kitchen sink. It will be the third time that I had somebody out and they have been doing the very same thing. The contractor was very nice. They put some stuff, drain opens up and works fine as long as they are here. But the problem is it backs up. It's a double sink, and when I open one side of the sink to let the water out, the dirty water comes back up on the other side. But he continued to work with me until I was able to actually meet up with him to get it fixed. He was able to get it fixed in the one visit, and everything’s working fine since. I do not consider the issue resolved. I stand by my position that AHS is obliged to provide reimbursement for the work their crew performed. The issue was misdiagnosed and the work was unnecessary and I have provided sufficient evidence of such. AHS originally agreed to cover this expense due to the mistake and then reneged once the final bill came in. You have made it clear that AHS will make no effort to provide compensation. Between several miscommunication issues between AAA and AHS they informed me the paperwork needed to be completed to honor the part warranty. They said they ordered the part. I've been waiting over 2 weeks without AC in South Florida. Can you imagine a company putting their customers through this. Why can't they just purchase a compressor? They could care less about their customers. This is reflected in their terrible customer service, unreturned calls, contracts with the worst rated appliance repair companies, lies, misinformation. I believe because they will do anything to avoid having to pay money. Once they have you signed up they stick it to you. Avoid AHS like the plague.

Let me start by stating that I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 15+ years and although they always are somewhat slow in responding to repairs of any appliance, it never has been this bad. Submitted a request for service on March 13th. A service contractor (Airtronics - Houston, Texas) came by to check the unit on March 14th. After checking the Evaporator coil, told me that it was leaking but AHS would not repair it but rather put a "sealant". Checked the compressor and told me it was bad and needed to be replaced. He mentioned that a "refurbished" compressor would be provided. Wondered why a refurbished unit but understand that the cost for AHS would be much lower and as they are indeed an insurance company, they will try to avoid expensive repairs.
Now, why they won't repair the Evaporator Coil has me baffled. Again, avoiding repairs. Today, March 18th, I called AHS and they have yet to approve the repair of my Air Conditioner Unit and they have no clue as to when the approval will be given. Of course, once the approval is given, then the part has to be ordered and the service company has to have time available for the repair. To make things worse, AHS customer service is terrible. The gentleman refused to send me to a supervisor and told me that the Approval Department had over an hour wait. At least, he gave me their number for me to call. I would seriously look for other home insurance companies when thinking of purchasing insurance for your appliances. AHS is now using refurbished equipment, delaying repairs and refusing to properly repair equipment in order to avoid paying for repairs.

But the customer service has told me several times the repair is approved. I asked for it in writing and they keep saying they’ve emailed the approval, but they have not.
I’ve called almost every day and experience extensive wait times, disconnections, and language barriers from Asian based service persons who have lacked full ability to assist. Finally spoke with an American based person today for another hour and now she says they are still reviewing. I get a different answer every single time I call. This is all a big (delay and frustrate) fraud/scam to avoid their obligations to their customers. I heard a lot of good reviews about AHS coming into the homeowner world and I have been a homeowner for 4 years now, and with AHS for 2 years. I have to say my experience with them has not been the same. I have had service done before and besides the hour Wait time trying to get a hold of someone, My service has been provided on time. Unfortunately, In July I had AHS send out their heating and cooling company and when the guy walked in, he closed all my vents, when straight outside and had me pay for coolant because AHS only covers a certain amount. That was not a problem longs we had AC due to me using my home as a business which I take care of babies! I ended up having to call AHS in less than 3 months because heating and cooling did not notice the leak in my outside unit.
AHS sent their HVAC company out and they were very polite! They told me I had a leak and my unit inside also had to get replaced. We ended up coming out of pocket in October less than $500... AHS also told me being that I had the same issue that wasn't taken care of, and it's been less than 90 days then I can get my $125 back for the service fee. Long story short, I now have a new unit in the inside and out. I've been contacting AHS due to my units not working and since October and they still tried to charge me another service fee even though I spoke to AHS several times about not getting my refund check for this same issue still occurring.
I have a brand new unit inside and out and our unit STILL don't work! We have to cut the unit off from the emergency switch for it to go off! Our thermostat doesn't even control the unit. Contacting our insurance company We've paid out for the last 2 years and not getting them to take full responsibility for the lack of service from the HVAC company they've sent out. The last 4 times is very upsetting and all this insurance company wants is $$$ for service fees that's not even being provided nor have they given my previous refund that I was told will be sent out NUMEROUS of times from customer service and even Corporate. We cannot wait for our reinstatement because WE WILL NOT go through AHS anymore. We have been given a promise not kept and even service that was not done!
The same company they keep sending out is saying this brand new system has to get a new part already and our insurance company will not send them back out unless we come out of pocket which we also had a complaint about because one person would say their co-worker didn't the correct thing and they can fix it but hasn't. Very upsetting to trust a company you pay to make sure your home is properly taking care of but all they ask for is money to send out the wrong companies meanwhile our electric bill has been $100 MORE than usual because our system does not shut off unless we touch our emergency switch and we need to use it due to our own infant Baby and children and not to mention my business which I have babies and toddlers. I have never experienced anything like this!

American Home Shield sent out GBR Appliances & Repair when we called for our dryer. I would have to hold the button on the dryer to make it continue to run. The mechanic who came out contacted them and said that the dryer was unrepairable since it was 21 years old. The board was burned and everything was gone in the dryer. They recommended a new dryer and I talked to someone in American Home Shield who asked me to pick out a dryer off of a list that they sent me through email. I did that and then the new dryer came. However, the people who brought it apparently didn't want to work that night and they said that the dryer was the same size as the box and that it wouldn't fit. So, thinking that there would be a restocking fee if it was opened, I told them, "Okay. Then, take it back and leave it in the box."
Then, I found out later that there was a restocking fee because I sent the dryer back. I talked to an AHS rep named Angela and she said that they would reimburse me. She also said that I could go out and find one that is the right size from a dealership then go from there. That was what I did and I found a Maytag on sale then I sent them the copy of the receipt and all the information. However, I was also told after I called that they don't go by the measurements on the box and that the person was wrong when he told me that. I have measured and looked at the measurements on the email about the dryer, and I was on the positive that it would fit. But the guy delivering it said, "Oh, no. It's what's on the box." I believed him so I sent it back. I was very disappointed in that 'cause I have waited to get my dryer.
While I love my new Maytag dryer and I am happy about it, the whole thing was a stressful experience. I've never had a home warranty before and so I'm now learning all about insurance and how it works. I couldn't believe everything people tell. I couldn't trust the people who are delivering the items that they know exactly what they're doing. That cost me $81 for the restocking fee and that's coming off of the money that they're gonna send me for the dryer. That was painful a learning experience. If anything else goes wrong, I'll be much brighter about it.

American Home Shield sent somebody out to repair my microwave and the company came out fairly quickly. They weren't able to repair the oven there and they took it back with them. They had to order a part, so it was a week later when they finally called me and said that American Home Shield would be reaching to me, which they did quickly after that to tell me that they were gonna have to replace it. That's when the problem started with the delivery and I was without a microwave for a month.
Three days in a row when our delivery was scheduled from the company, they called saying one day that the person had called in sick. So they rescheduled for the next day with the supervisor. With the first, they gave me a time frame, which I had to miss work for but they never showed up. The second day, they also gave me a time frame and I waited at the end of their time frame. They called and said that the person that was supposed to come out is tied up and that they are working to send somebody else. An hour later, they called me saying that they had to reschedule. This is a Friday, so then they scheduled it for Saturday.
On Saturday, they gave me the time frame between 10:00 to 2:00. I waited and waited and at 4 PM, they called me finally. I didn't call them. I let the company call me. They said that the supervisor that was supposed to come out got tied up. Then finally, on Monday, they got somebody out here. They did their best that they would try to call me so I didn't miss too much work but there again, I had to miss some work. American Home Shield really doesn't know anything about this because I did not talk to them about it. But as far as American Home Shield goes, everything was fine. It was just with the company that they had selected for installation.

Having a warranty with American Home Shield is good. We have told several people that it is good to get it and we’ve had some who got AHS. When our furnace quit working, we submitted a claim to them and our experience was very good. We had a contractor from Rice Heating and Air Conditioning Company check it. We talked to him when he came and he told us what he would do. He went out there and messed around with the furnace. He said it had just come unplugged, so he plugged it up and the furnace has been working since. The contractor got it done and he did well.

I've been covered with American Home Shield for more than a year now. Last year, our air conditioner went out in the heat of the summer, and I called out for an air conditioner guy. I kept waiting but no one ever called. When I went back online and looked, the contractor said they tried to get ahold of us and no one answered. So I just wrote it off and we called somebody else out. I wasn’t thrilled or impressed with that at all, but the last two experiences, with the electrician and the plumber, were very good. The contractors came right out, immediately asked us what was wrong, and took care of the problem.
It was more of we wanted to have things checked out and both contractors were very knowledgeable. They were able to explain to me and walked me through what was going on to where I could tell my husband. I called my husband and let him talk to them. We had the plumber come out because we were smelling gas in the garage and we had a little leak at our hot water heater in the garage.
On the electrical, we had somebody out who thought we had a nest on top of one of our junction boxes and he wasn’t sure if the wires in the attic were frayed. We wanted to make sure our house wasn't gonna catch on fire and called AHS to have electrical come out. They sent Circle S Electric and the electrician said that was the way those were done back in the day, and that there was no nest on top of our attic junction box. All in all, we had a good experience with the plumber as well as the electrician and both the issues were easy repairs.

American Home Shield is a help with major things. I’m somewhat of a do-it-myself guy, but I run a business outta here and work full-time. When the water had to be shut off, I can’t just shut it off in the village that I live in. I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and their reps got it right on in and got it going. They sent Patrick Murphy Plumbing out so I had them do the repair for a valve that left the water inside the house, and it shut off half of the water that comes inside the house. Pete, the guy that worked for them, was courteous and very good. I like him. He's like a salesman and a plumber all-in-one.
American Home Shield only paid for a valve that was replaced and I had to pay for the labor. I was out of more money in the plumbing than AHS. I had to pay them $100 to buy me a valve that cost $20. But if I would’ve had time to read the full fine print of how it actually goes, I would’ve had a better understanding. If I have done that before, I would've done it another way. Other than that, everything else went smoothly. American Home Shield is very handy and I get what I pay for. They have been good and I’ll recommend them.

I called American Home Shield for my refrigerator stopped running, and they set me up with an appointment. Dealing with their reps went perfectly and they were very courteous and professional. However, after I had made arrangements to stay home and wait for the contractor, I got a call at the last minute and was told that the guy couldn't get out that day. So, it was a wasted day off for me and I had to reschedule the service. But other than that, everything went smoothly and it was the way they said it would be. The guy came out and he knew right away what was wrong with my refrigerator. He ordered the part and came back in a week with the part and fixed it. And it has worked perfectly since. I've used my AHS warranty a couple of times and it's definitely worth it to have. Aside from the refrigerator, I've had the water heater repaired and that would've cost me a lot more money than what I paid. I've had nothing but great experience with AHS.

I called for my dishwasher, which when contractor came, they said it couldn't be fixed and the water supply line was not covered through AHS. The guy came to my home and asked me if I had a water supply valve, to which I said no. He said he had one and it costs $70. But I didn’t realize it's cheaper than that. I could've changed the service to another date and went to Home Depot and bought my own water supply line for $20. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

The plumber ended up having to cut a hole on my roof to fix the leak issue and I just have to repaint the part of the drywall that got cut out. I have complained to AHS a couple of times - they have done nothing to rectify the situation. My front load washing machine broke and my husband scheduled a repair visit. The repair guy came out looked at it, made no repairs, and rolled out. He closed the ticket on his end as though he has repaired it and said nothing to my husband (just walked out of the house).
We called back in to schedule another visit after advising AHS what happened (they waived the fee) and AHS sent the same company back out for the repair. The second guy ordered to the part that needed to be replaced and after 2 weeks they came back out (the original walk out guy came out). He changed the part, left the broken part in the laundry room and rolled out again. The washing machine ran 1 load and completely broke... The inside of the drum was chipped off and unbalanced. I called AHS for them to rectify the situation and they recorded my complaints but didn't fix it at all. They have gone completely downhill.

Some of my plugs were running hot and burning, and I called in a claim to American Home Shield. The contractor came out, fixed those and did a good job. On one of the claims that we had before that, the person that AHS sent didn't do the light correctly and didn’t do the plugs either. He said that it was normal for them to get hot and yet, they were burning. Instead of putting one of the same size with the original, he came with a small one. So, it left a hole in the ceiling and open space all over the place. When we had to get another electrician to come out, AHS wouldn’t cover the light that was messed up. They said that if we wanted to get it done, we had to call back the original person that they sent the first time.
We were disappointed with that because we had to pay for that out of pocket. They were the ones who sent out this electrician. Usually, they handle it but they wouldn't do it and they tried to first say that we didn't ask for certain things. Then, they said they would check into the recordings and all of a sudden, they called back. They never said they found it on the recording because we told them when we reported it of what we wanted done. They just said that they were gonna go ahead and cover the rest of the stuff.
When we bought a home in California, it was required to have some type of coverage and then after that, we just continued paying for AHS every year while we were there. So, we’ve had them since then and we're living in Oklahoma now. AHS was good for us on the other claims and the technicians were very good. However, some of the people they sent out just didn't wanna do the work or they would say that AHS wouldn't cover things. We had an experience where we had to change out a part in the plumbing but the plumber who came out convinced my wife to just keep it. He said that AHS wouldn't replace the part with what we had in there and that they would wanna go cheaper. I reported it to them but they never covered it and I never got it fixed. So, we still have the same problem.

And what he told me was that the dishwasher was an old machine, and that with the parts, labor and installation, it wasn't worth fixing. Up to that point, I was really happy. AHS offered the buyout on it. And then, they sent me an email where I could pick all the machine and add an upgrade if I wanted to. So, I sent that in.
The repair guy texted me a couple of times and asked what was going on. And he kinda gave me a heads up and to call AHS and see what was going on. It was a month before I told my wife, "Something's not right. You need to call them." Then I went on American Home Shield and checked our account with them, and it said that the claim was closed. So, I called and a gal told me, "Okay, I need to have you talk to somebody in another department." And then she said, "Well, we're really busy right now. So, I'll have them call you back." And three days later, I didn't get a callback. So, I told my wife to call them. From what she said, American Home Shield didn't put the order in. And finally, somebody called me, and they're supposed to be here tomorrow to replace it.
We've had AHS for five years and I love their service up until this point where something happened and I did everything they told me to do, and somehow the ball got dropped. It's the first time that I've ever experience this, and I was kinda shocked. The order number got put through, and I don't understand it because they sent me the email to pick out the one that I wanted. Then I got a confirmation, but the repair guy told me to look for an email where it was ordered. And it never happened. I checked my spam. My wife and I both have emails through AHS, so I thought maybe my wife got it. But she said she didn't. Other than that, I've been really happy with AHS and I'm not looking to go anywhere else. I'm gonna stand by them. They addressed the problem, and it looks like it's been resolved. I've recommended them to four or five different people. And I'll continue to recommend them to everybody I know.

This warranty service was part of my closing costs. I never actually asked for it. Two weeks after moving in I had a major plumbing issue. I asked for a plumber to come. The plumber they contract with couldn't manage to show up for over a week as I had a toilet backing up into the shower. So I was supposed to pay $75 to not have a bathroom for over a week until anyone could look at this. I called a different plumber who came that day and found the problem, a collapsed sewer line which by the way wouldn't be covered under the terms of the warranty anyway. So $4500 later, I have my issue fixed timely and called to cancel this useless warranty. I cancelled on February 26th, according to them. I actually called on the 23rd. I was told I'd be refunded the service call payment and the remainder of the warranty premium.
Nearly a month later I have had to have my bank reverse the charges for the service call, as it was NEVER refunded, and I still don't have the refund check I was told would be sent 3 weeks ago. I called and was told a different story of it takes 14-21 business days to refund. So basically they take your money immediately, but don't have much intention of ever giving any back. If it took me 21 business days to pay them, I'd be put into collections. This is absolutely ridiculous. What in the world takes in reality 2 months to refund a cancellation? Don't waste your time or money. They won't cover you or help in any fashion. I imagine my attorney needs to call, because this is insane.
Hello, Heather. We apologize that the contractor assigned could not service in the time frame that they should have. All he had to do was explain to me why, but he just kept saying that they were not gonna fix it and then just left. I went on my own and got it fixed. AHS is a great company though and I'd tell others to join AHS.
Good afternoon Phillip,

We had a plumbing leak behind the shower that caused us to submit a claim online with American Home Shield. Navigating through the website was easy and they sent an email telling us the name of the contractor and the person who was going to show up. The contractor from Plumbing Enterprises was friendly and easy-going. He knew exactly what he had to do and he was done in about an hour. He did it right on time and it came out just the way we wanted it which was perfect. Everything was fine after the repair. I was surprised it was a very good experience. I thought there would be a problem but it was easier than I thought. If you're considering American Home Shield, get their warranty.

I have been with American Home Shield for 12 years through multiple different houses. This is our fourth house with AHS and so far, we're very happy with them. Recently, I filed a claim online for our sump pump. It wouldn't stop working. It was leaking water into the area and filling back up. It kept pumping the same water over and over and over again and I was afraid that if it quit running, it would burn up, and then I'd flood my basement.
I was contacted by B&L Plumbing within 20 minutes. They then called back the next day to set up an appointment. It took longer than I had hoped to get an appointment. It was about a week. But then, their response was American Home Shield didn't deem it an emergency, which I don't recall on online that I was able to pick emergency or non-emergency. B&L Plumbing called the day before and told me they'd be there, then they called 40 minutes before they arrived and they were in and out in less than an hour. They diagnosed the problem, replaced the sump pump, and they were on their way.
While I've had experience before where I said that the time frame of appointment wasn't acceptable and then I went to the next provider and it wasn't any faster, I'm still very pleased with American Home Shield. Every time I think that I don't need them anymore and that I'll drop it, something happens and I make a claim again. I recommend them. It's well worth it.

I'm fairly new to the American Home Shield warranty and I used it for my oven. It was great and I had absolutely no problems. They were referred to me by a close friend who also has their service, and since I had a pleasant experience with the oven, I also sent a customer that bought the warranty. I recently called because I woke up one morning and it was leaking underneath my cabinet in my bathroom. I'm a single woman and I don't know how to fix this so that was a big thing. I'm also on a budget, so I can't afford something expensive.
The first guy that came out had an attitude like he didn't wanna be there. When you take the handle off the faucet, there's a screw in there and when you lift the handle part up, there's a cartridge that turns and he couldn't turn it. By the time he came out, the other sink of my double sink in my bathroom was also leaking. He told me that they were both gonna have to be replaced, and they would replace it with Builder Grade. I told him that that wasn't what I was told. I don't want a Kohler faucet replaced with something that costs 29.99 at Walmart.
He left and went to Lowe's, then he sent me a message saying that Lowe's doesn't have Kohler. He went to Home Depot and sent me a picture of a Kohler. I knew he couldn't get the same faucet and that wasn't an issue at all, but he sent me a message back that said that Home Depot only has one. I responded that there's another local Home Depot and maybe they could call and see if they have both of them. All of a sudden, he sent me a message that American Home Shield would call me. He called his boss and he said they're only putting in Builder Grade. I never heard from the guy again.
Within 30 minutes, I got a call from a lady. She said what I was told was not correct. She already reached out to another contractor and they would come out and replace the Kohler faucet. She advised me to go ahead and call the second the guy came out to see if I could get the appointment scheduled. When I called, the rep said that she would call me when she was ready to schedule the appointment. She finally called me back the next day and said that she wanted to schedule my appointment to replace my hot water heater. It scared me and I thought that maybe we were gonna be in trouble. I waited for the second guy to come out. Again, he had an attitude that he didn't wanna be there especially when he had to walk upstairs. I live in a two storey house and he was telling me he had bad knees. He too wouldn't shut the handle off and couldn't get the thing to turn.
He was saying that he was gonna charge me to diagnose the problem because he couldn't tell if it was the faucet. He ended up telling me the same thing about replacing the faucet with Builder Grade and left. I was back to square one. I called and asked for a supervisor to call, but the lady was cut and dry. The first supervisor never called me. A couple of days later, I got a call from another supervisor and she didn't wanna hear what I had to say. I told her that I wanted to cancel American Home Shield. The policy says it covers plumbing so if I have to pay somebody to diagnose my plumbing issue, it makes no sense for me to pay the difference to replace my faucet.
My ex-husband was passing through town and he took the faucet apart. He fixed both of my faucets and it cost me $27. My ex-husband is a little man and he had to use a little bit of muscle room. He's not a licensed plumber, but he got the thing off and fixed it. I have shared this with my friends that recommended American Home Shield. I seriously doubt I will get any further. Their service was very poor and I want my money back. I'm not gonna pay for a service that doesn't come through when I need them.

There was an issue with the water dispenser of the refrigerator. We had to turn the water valve off to the refrigerator, so we have no ice. I filed a claim for that with American Home Shield on Monday night and a company came out Tuesday but they didn’t have the part. It was going to have to be ordered. They said it would be five to seven days.
I called them after 10 days and they said that the part just came in the day before that. Then we waited four more days for them to come and the part didn’t fit. They had to leave, to talk to American Home Shield and try to get another part. They said that it would be another 10 days. So, now we’re still buying bags of ice. Nevertheless, the claims process with American Home Shield was very good and the reporting of the issues was very quick and easy. The people were responsive with the initial response. Also, we had some really good results with another claim we had with AHS for the garage door opener.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience Jo Ann. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

Since the repair, where you put the detergent in, it doesn’t open up during the wash cycle. It's not dispensing and it was doing that before. They tout in their website that they cover plumbing leaks, but good luck getting your issues covered. Per my experience I'd recommend you not using AHS because of denial of claims and time to get their service department on the phone it consistently takes over 30 minutes per phone call. I had a plumbing leak in my wall that the plumber accessed from the outside having to go through stucco. Then in a call to an escalated department they say they only cover leaks in concrete when they're in the slab but my contract states "If the plumbing is accessible through only a concrete floor, wall or ceiling AHS will pay up to $500 per contract term"...
Then if I wanted to fight the claim denial in small claims court per the contract I have to go through arbitration which would cost me $1,700. They don't allow the fight to be taken inexpensively to small claims court. Them denying a valid claim is really frustrating and will likely happen to you. So they just deny claims that appear good and there's no cost effective way to fight them. I'd recommend saving your money and self insure. Frustrated Customer, Robert **

American Home Shield has been fantastic. The pipes of my sprinkler system had frozen and burst on January 21st. There was a lot of damage that occurred to the first floor and the lower level where water ran down through the registers there on the floor. Almost three-fourths of the basement had to be gutted and three-fourth of the first floor walls and flooring had to be removed. The inspector came and checked the furnace. It showed that it had been compromised. The initial company came out and then his supervisor, then my insurance inspector came out. It was by Friday of last week and the heat must have gone out. It has gotten cold in there again.
I called this recent company to come out and it took him a while to figure out what happened. He told me that in the thermostat there was a little wire and it was burnt out. He was able to fix that. He also told me to let him know if it goes out again because, for that type of problem, I wouldn't have to pay another service call to have him come out for a follow-up. He did an awesome job and he was able to get the heat working again. I highly recommend AHS. In fact, I've recommended them to quite a few people who are now with them.

I talked to my wife and within approx. 15 minutes, agreed to not cancel, but maintain my account. To my surprise, when I called back, I was told that once I cancelled, the only way I could renew would be as a new customer and at an additional $5 cost to what we had just discussed moments earlier. I was floored and expressed that it is hard to believe that this is how they would treat a loyal customer. We had a little warm spell. When I switched from using the heater to the AC, the AC wasn’t working. When I put in a call to American Home Shield, they sent out Express Heating and Air. But we had gone back into a cold snap and they couldn’t replicate the problem. They told me to wait until it gets hot to call them back out. I don't need to turn the AC at this point. Today is hot. It’s like 65 but we get down into the low 50s at night so I don’t need to run the AC. I’m waiting for it to get back to 80 degrees again like it was when I first experienced the issue before I call Express back up.
I've been with American Home Shield for three years. When we needed them, they were fairly quick and competent. When we bought the house, the air conditioning system was 18 years old and I can’t afford to replace a $10,000 AC system at this point in time. I’ve stuck around with American Home Shield because I’ve had three calls on the AC system in the past three years. It has definitely paid for itself.
Also, I haven’t had any issues with the contractors that American home Shield sent out. They had all been fine and they showed up on time. They would give a call saying they were 30 minutes away so that I could make sure I was home. They were all professional and knowledgeable. We kinda had a back and forth the last time I had an AC issue. And it turned out that I had an electrical issue as well. I wound up getting the electrical issue fixed but now, it still seems that I have an AC issue. American Home Shield is definitely something that I’d recommend to friends. They should at least get coverage if they have older, major appliances. I definitely think that most people my age, late 20s and early 30s, a lot of them don’t have a whole lot of pocket cash lying around to replace major household items.

Our water heater started leaking, and it needed to be replaced. I dealt with a couple of vendors through American Home Shield, and MacLin Plumbing always communicated much better than SAP did. With SAP, I got sent a text message saying that they were on their way, and the guy from MacLin was already at the front door. So, that was kinda useless.
Replacing the water heater was covered, and then they wrote up that it was out of code because it didn’t have a leak pan underneath the heater. Then they put pressure and temperature mods that were 150, and then they put the gas line mods for 150. So, American Home Shield pays $250 to bring it in to compliance with the codes, and then I had to pay anything after that. The problem that I had with it was they were charging all those mods, and they would literally replace the plumbing that anybody would have to replace to replace a water heater.
They didn’t add one thing. And on top of that, they weren’t even gonna put the drip pan there. I had to ask them to put it there. So, there was a little bit of a scam going on. I understand that the water heater’s covered, but I ended up paying $500 for stuff that should’ve been replaced as a matter of recourse of replacing a water heater. They didn’t modify anything. They literally replaced the plumbing that connected the water heater to the plumbing of the house. So, that left me somewhat disgruntled. I think AHS’s agreement with the plumbing company is, “We’ll pay for the water heater and you can rip the customer off for $500 for putting it in.”
Other than that, submitting the claim through AHS was absolutely a dream. It worked really well. I did the first plumbing thing that we had on the phone, and I did the second one for the water heater online. They were both good. It was just that the company that did the first plumbing thing that we had was much better tied into their system and did a much better job of saying, “We’re coming today. We’re on our way. We’ll be there in half an hour,” and, “We’re outside your door.” SAP Plumbing let me know after the fact that they were there. In their defense, they came within the time they said they were gonna come, so they were on time. I’d recommend American Home Shield. They’ve been good and they did what they needed to do.

However, the tech wouldn't call until the morning of the appointment, which could be a problem for a working person. They weren't willing to try to accommodate the first customer as far as I was concerned. We ended up having four preparations, and they gave us the preparation to be there. I put in a claim for a plumber because I've heard a couple of weird noises when I flushed the toilet. But when the plumber called me to make an appointment, he asked me what was going on. I told him about it and he asked about some work being done up the street near me. He knew that where I lived they were doing some work on the water mains. I confirmed it and he said that it was just air in the system and it will go away. So, he never made the service call because he thought it would be a waste of time. He knew exactly what it would be.
Other than that, my last contract was with 2-10, and I was somewhat happy with them, but my rate went sky high the next renewal. And it often took time, like 48 hours or so, for them to connect me with a contractor. Then they have 24 hours to get out so it could be 36 hours with no water, hot water, or heat. I find that the response time with American Home Shield has been phenomenal. I've had service contracts in the past in Florida and so far, these couple of things with AHS have been very easy to do business with.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is always easy. When my hot water wasn’t working, I called in on the 4th because I was trying to get somebody out as soon as possible to fix it. The initial call was okay. The lady took the information and set up the appointment with K & S Plumbing for the 5th, a Tuesday. Then on the 5th, K & S Plumbing called me and said that their plumber was out sick and they needed to reschedule me. They weren’t gonna be able to come out until Thursday. I told the rep to schedule me for Thursday, but I needed to call AHS to see if they could send another plumber out.
I called AHS back after I got off the phone with K & S. I told them that the plumber they scheduled was out sick and I asked them to send me a different plumbing company. At that time, the lady said they couldn't schedule a different plumber without contacting the first contractor and that she was gonna call me back. The lady never called me back after that.
The plumber showed up that Thursday. They said that I have a smart water heater and they thought the issue was some type of thermal disk board that goes on top of the water heater. A part was mailed to my house and the plumber came out the next Thursday to put it in. However, the part hadn’t shown up. The plumber said that wasn't really the issue. Something went out and I needed another water heater. I told the guy to call it in because I've been without hot water for over a week. It was an emergency for me. The plumber said that he was gonna call it in right then when he leaves. Friday came and I did a live chat with AHS. The lady said they haven't received the diagnosis. She also said the plumber didn’t answer. I emailed AHS to try to contact them.
Monday, I did another live chat and said I was checking on the diagnosis. They said the plumber hasn’t called in the diagnosis yet. I'm frustrated because it has been two weeks and I still don’t have hot water. They reached out to K & S Plumbing, and K & S Plumbing said that they were gonna call in the diagnosis that day. Whether or not they called in the diagnosis yet, I don't know.
Somebody dropped the ball on my issue, but I still would recommend AHS. Overall, the company is okay, but there is room for improvement somewhere that someone needs to be discussed. When you put in a service call, you got to stay on top of it. You have to call to make sure that the technicians are calling in what they need to call in and that the communication is going back and forth between AHS and whoever the technicians are.

There was a water leak in our shower as well as with two of our toilets. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was very simple. Their website was very easy to navigate through. They then sent out Stay True Plumbing and their plumbers were very good. However, we predominantly do phone calls and my wife does a lot of the scheduling. She said that American Home Shield should have more of a reliable chat to improve their service.
When we had an issue with our air conditioner, the first contractor we dealt with was terrible. But once we informed American Home Shield about that contractor, which was Coastal Mechanical, they removed that contracting company from the list. And then, they sent out an additional contractor and they were actually fantastic. We've only been dealing with the other company since then and we've been very happy with them. We had our air conditioner replaced. Overall, we've been pretty pleased with American Home Shield.

I used the Home Shield service for HVAC repairs two times (for an issue that was observed when we did a walk through on the house), both times the HVAC company referred by Home Shield was unable to fix the issue and/or did not arrive with required parts even though I had done enough preliminary troubleshooting to narrow down the source of the problem. In each case, despite lack of effective resolution, I still had to pay the out of pocket service charge fee. Ultimately with additional troubleshooting I ended up fixing the issue myself. I would not place a lot of value in the Home Shield Service.

So my microwave went bad 6 months ago. Repair person sent out by AHS says it’s 16 years old, magnetron etc etc are busted. I’ll repair but it’ll probably keep happening due to age. He talks to AHS, explains the situation, cost of repair more than new unit, but yup, repair it. Ok no issue. I talk to a representative later. They say, "If it happens again give us a call." Ok so 6 months on, exact same issue again I can tell, loud noise, not heating. I call and I explain situation to CS. She says someone has to come and they’ll determine. I knew the technician will again say, it’s repairable. And so the process will go on and on and cost hundreds for both me and AHS for probably a $200 microwave. Anyway, we are going in a loop but normal tone by both. I said I want to speak to manager or supervisor.
After few minutes she comes back with aggressive tone, obviously tutored what to say. ‘Manager not here, you are not a technician, how do you know it’s old, you can’t tell it’ll go bad again.’ ‘Lady’ I said. ‘I’m not the one telling you, I’m telling you what the technician told me and your CS.’ ‘We don’t have those notes, nobody has said that.’ Well that’s AHS’s business how they take notes I told her and it was a casual conversation I had with CS 6 months ago. Anyway I just end the conversation as it was not getting resolved. Very bad attitude and obviously I have to get this thing sorted sooner than later as microwave is a relatively simpler unit. Can’t just keep shoving in magnetrons and capacitors every few months. It’s an essential item and can’t be kept waiting for 3 weeks for thing to be repaired.
Hello, Ali. I am aware of the issues that you have had with the microwave as you contacted me directly and you had an appointment today. I will reach out to you directly.

I don't know where to start. I had American Home Shield for over two years on two rental properties. Unfortunately, their service has gotten progressively worse. I called to file a claim about my ac unit and was told a company could not be out until four business days. This is unacceptable as a landlord. I paid for the service myself and ended up canceling my call. However, AHS still charged me a 75.00 service call that never occurred. It took months to get straightened out. I decided to cancel in January.
Fast forward two months, someone did not cancel my contract correctly and they are attempting to collect on one of the two properties. I have called several times and called again today to be reassured this would be taken care of. I asked for a supervisor today which resulted in the lady saying "we are having a system update (at 300pm?) and I can't transfer you." She advised she will call me back. Please stay away from this company, this service is unacceptable from the top down.

Thank goodness he had the sense to send his employee Manu who was a total delight, had it not been for Manu I am positive my garage door would not have gotten fixed. Manu was an indefatigable worker and very respectful. However, I cannot say that about the person who owns this Choose the Right Door.
I am asking AHS to please remove this company from their contractors' list. This company is not worth it. Manu arrive and started to work right away. I needed to find out if I had a leak. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and I got a text within 30 minutes to an hour from a plumbing company reaching out to schedule the appointment. Then the person who came out was very nice. However, I had a problem with the invoicing. I have a specific deductible with American Home Shield of $100 and I got an invoice from the plumbing company, which I’m assuming American Home Shield handled, of $150. I spoke with somebody and they said they would check into it. I just don’t see any other deductions from my banking account for any difference. I don’t know if that was just the communication between American Home Shield and the plumbing company or not, but that was the only problem.

It is my sincerest hope that by sharing my experience I will be contacted by a Supervisor from you AHS. I sent this e-mail detailing my frustration this morning and have yet to get a response. I am currently on hold waiting to speak with a Supervisor. My phone call began at 9:29 am and it is now 11:58 am. I have been told on two separate occasions that I would be transferred to a Supervisor and that has yet to happen. I was even told that a supervisor stated they would not speak to me.
After being on the phone for more than 90 minutes the call was disconnected from your end. I called and asked to be connected with the representative I was previously speaking to. I provided her name and was then denied my request. I was placed back in a call rotation. The first representative has my phone number and since out call was disconnected from her end at 11:09 am, she has yet to call back. The second call has now been disconnected from your end after an additional 38 minutes and that representative has not called back either.
To say I am frustrated and completely dissatisfied is an understatement. If you have been working with a customer for more than 90 minutes and also 38 minutes if the call is disconnected, you should have a responsibility to call that customer back. It is seems as if you all are using tactics to deter your customers from following through with their requests so that you do not have to honor the terms of the contract. This behavior is shameful on your behalf.
If you will review our account you will see that we upgraded our water heater. We were told on two separate occasions we would be reimbursed for the cost of the water heater that you would have paid to replace the original and also for permits ($250.00) and bringing the unit up to code ($250.00). When we inquired about the amount of the water heater reimbursement, we were initially told $600.00. On yesterday, we were told $550.00 and told that they didn't know anything about the $250 for permits and $250 for bringing up the code, so no. The reimbursement for permits and codes was brought to our attention by your staff. When this information was shared with us, I went to our contract to verify. If you will visit Section D., Part 14, Lines H and I you will see the information regarding the $250.00 for each. In regard to the water heater itself, Line L states you will pay up to $2,000.00.
I am requesting that a Supervisor call me at the number listed below to discuss the $600.00 for the water heater, $250.00 for permits, and $250.00 for bringing up to code. Based on the information that was provided two us by two representatives of you company, we are owed a total of $1,100.00. I am anticipating your phone call so that we can resolve this matter in a timely fashion. The above e-mail received no response and we have yet to have this issue resolved. It is very disappointing to pay for a service to only learn that the company has no moral compass.
Hello, Stacey. I apologize that your call was dropped and that you were never able to get on the line with an actual supervisor. A member of our Social Media team will contact you directly to assist you with your concerns.

I had an issue with my washer. It would spit out water. When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, I did it over the phone. The rep I spoke with was very nice and informative. And the person they sent out from Sears was a sweet young man who did the job professionally. He was outgoing too. He called in and talked to someone. They told me that the part was more than the washer so I replaced my washer and sent them a claim for it. It took a week from the time I submitted the claim until I got one. I have been with American Home Shield since last year and I've been telling all my friends that they need to get AHS.
Good morning Charlotte,

When I thought that the drainage was backed up, I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for that. The interaction with the AHS rep was fine, and the tech who came out was fine too. The tech resolved the issue in a matter of seconds and he was great. My thing is collecting the $75 when nothing is wrong. The first time when the contractor came out, they said they couldn't fix the problem, but I still had to pay. I understood that they came out, but when they got there and saw that there was nothing they could do, why should I pay $75? AHS asks for the little $75 in advance. If there's a problem, then they take the $75. But when the contractor comes out and there's no major problem, it's incorrect to pay $75 if there isn't any true problem. I don’t like that part. Other people should shop around first before going with AHS.

The pressure valve of my hot water heater was leaking. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it went well. The contractor, Kwik Services, came out after two days. The guy was great and did a good job. He was in and out of here and he knew his stuff. It’s just that AHS doesn’t pick the best people to come out and service things. They don't pick name-brand companies, they just pick the little guys, which is fine because some of them are good. But I got B & K, who totally ripped me off years ago for my other hot water heater and I refuse to use them now. Also, AHS's prices keep going up and I’m dissatisfied about it. It gets to the point where I might as well just wait for something that they can pay for it or the deductible keeps going up, and they keep taking little things that add up away from the contracts.

With our property in Blacksburg, my experience with AHS has been positive for the most part. However, on some occasions, for example, finding a locksmith to replace locks, has been very challenging. It is cheaper to buy locks in the store and pay somebody to do it than to go with the service because we were asked to front the cost, then get reimbursed through them but through service. I said no. I would like to replace the four locks since we bought the house to matching and I have not been able to do it. It would be great to be able to do it.
A few times because the property was rented out, there was very bad communication, particularly with the plumbing services. We’ve had an ongoing problem and it cost us a lot of money, above what was covered. In the meantime, the sewage kept coming into the house and we had a family with young kids living there. The system would be updated, but no email or text message would come to my husband, so we had no way of knowing how to handle it remotely. It has been very disappointing. A plumber through AHS could not make it until two days and we had to urgently call someone and pay out of pocket just to unclog it, so the water would drain and people would not have sewage flowing into the house.
Finally, American Home Shield came through and said that it was not a claim anymore because it was sewage flowing. It needed hydro jetting, but the problem has not been addressed. It cost me over $3,000 just to hire our own plumber and still not address the underlying problem. For a rental property, I would never buy American Home Shield again. My daughter is a realtor for a top company and they dropped American Home Shield. That tells something, too.
Good afternoon Svetlana,
I understand your concerns regarding your overall American Home Shield experience and the plumbing service claim. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

We had a furnace that went out in one of our rental houses. It was working in about half capacity and I called American Home Shield. They set us up with Aire Serv by the St. Robert and they had it done as soon as the furnace came in. It took a total of about two weeks to complete everything. It took more time to get that furnace in from their supplier than it did to do anything else. During that time, the tenant was able to use some space heaters and kept everything at reasonable capacity. So, she was able to keep it at 60 degrees or better in there without much problem.
I've had American Home Shield for over a year now, since I bought the house. Part of the closing agreement was the previous owner would supply a one-year warranty. I did a bit of research into it and it was a good thing to reinvest in. So, I went ahead and reinvested this year, and it worked out good. I’m very pleased with American Home Shield. It’s uncommon for insurance to do what they are there for and actually make you feel good about it but I feel good about this.

I most recently filed a claim online to American Home Shield for our water heater. I logged into my account, filled in the blanks, and hit send. I got an instant message saying who were the people that they were gonna assign the claim to and that they would be in contact with me within 24 hours. They got ahold of me right away, so I dialed their number, spoke to Sam and asked for them to step up on that. They made it a point to come out, take a look at it, got the water heater, put it in, and got it fixed up. They were great and were top-shelf.
There were extra charges beyond what it covered because of some of the apparatus on the water heater that’s like a recycler. I paid my $100 and I had to pay an additional $455 for them to do the different work on there. If I weren’t in such a hurry to get the thing fixed, I would’ve had a buddy of mine come over and do the whole thing, but it’s okay. They got it taken care of and that’s why I’m paying that kind of money. I hate to use them because most insurance places, after you use them a couple of times, cut you off. I had them at my old house and I’ve had them at this house. I've probably spent $4,000 on monthly fees with these guys at least, so I have to go use them.
But they fixed a dryer for me two months ago and I heard the new part making the exact same noise that we’ve called them for last time. It sounds like it’s already going bad. They’re gonna have to stand up from their policy right now for the parts that they put in. This shouldn’t cost me anything. If this was a year later, great, but this has been less than two months. It’s the fairing, you can hear it starting to scream. Other than that, it's money well spent all in all. And I was trying to save them for if something big goes out. But it gets to a point where I don’t wanna spend my weekend taking my dryer apart to fix it and I don’t wanna change my water heater. I want these people to come do that.

If AHS would be doing the air conditioning, they would be talking about air filters and people don’t wanna hear about that. It’s the way the industry has changed over the years but with the service of AHS, everything is fine. The guys do their job and make sure that somebody is there for us and that is appreciated.

It's supposed to be first thing in the morning because they needed two guys to take out the stove. They said it was too heavy for one guy. Then, they said it was gonna take an hour. However, my buddy had to go to the hospital so, we couldn't stay. We left at 10:15 and we had to reschedule it. The rep has yet to call us back so I’m waiting for that. The plumbing into the tub was a galvanized pipe and that was probably from when the house was first built. I submitted the claim online to AHS and within 24 hours, Lakeshore Plumbing came out and helped. They did a good job. They had to replace the faucet that the water comes out of, and they actually had one to replace mine with so they didn’t have to leave and come back. In that respect, they came prepared. They only could’ve done a better job with leaving anything behind or cleaning up. I have a white bathroom floor so it's gonna show up on anything they do. But they didn’t do a horrible job. We've had American Home Shield since we bought the house 10 years ago. Because we bought an older house, the homeowner paid for the first year of it. And because we have older systems, especially the heating and air conditioning system, we have AHS mostly to cover the cost of getting those replaced. The downstairs heat pump has already been replaced, but the upstairs has not yet been replaced. But we've had water heater replaced not all that long ago. We have fairly new appliances and most of our issues have had to do with the heat pump system.
My biggest issue with them is the fact that some of their people are fantastic but some are absolute idiots. When stuck with the idiot, they would come out six times to fix something. Once somebody screws something up, I'm stuck with them till they fix it. It's impossible to say that the guy doesn't know what he was doing and ask for a different person. The winter before the last one, we had no heat for six weeks in our upstairs of our house because the guy who was doing the heating repair had no clue what he was doing. I'm in San Antonio, Texas and it doesn't get tremendously cold, but it's still cold. When the upstairs is 50 degrees, the kids aren't happy with it. Other than that, it's easy to put in a request for service with them.

They returned my call while I was at work and left a message to call to make a appointment. My furnace had been working fine since so I didn't call back figuring I would give it a while to see if it shut off again. I had chosen when I called to have the 75 dollar fee taken 48 hrs after the service was completed so I won't worried about the money being taken out since I hadn't even talked to the furnace company.
Then American Home Shield just took the money out of my account. So I called them and it took me over a week of calling. Them never calling me back or doing anything other than when I called to find out that yes they shouldn't have taken the money and I will get it back but it will take up to 21 days. We spent the first week being referred to different contractors who all called and said, "nope we don't fix that." We finally got a contractor out (4th try) and he said, "Yep clear and covered problem, we'll be back next week to replace." The next week we found out that the person who was assigned to approve this had a death in the family and just left town and they didn't think anyone needed to do her job while she was gone.
We finally got the approval. The guy has the part ordered and is going to come back the next day. The next day he calls and says "whoops the part is no longer made, we need approval for either a smaller or bigger one." Two days later and now we are dealing with the cash department because they claim that to fix the part we would need a modification and that is not covered and so they aren't going to fix it. We do not understand how they can get away with this and are talking to a lawyer. Hold times are always over 30 minutes, the people you talk to are just flat out rude, and this has been an absolute nightmare. Find another company. The thermostat of my AC was blank. Submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield was fine, but the initial call in was frustrating. The automated system couldn’t recognize what I was saying. But in just a couple of days, the contractor was able to come out and do the work. Everything is working fine now.

Our heater downstairs stopped working. We called American Home Shield and they had Best Care Home Services come and assess why. Something was broken so they ordered a new part for it. It took an awfully long time to get it from the manufacturer, but it was no fault of their own. Once they got it in, they had it in and installed within the next day. While they were up there, they asked me if I wanna have them look at my other heater too so I called about it and had a second claim. That heater was assessed and determined that it needed replacement so it was replaced within a week and at least, we had heat upstairs.
When I submit claims to AHS, I use the internet because I don't like to talk to people. The website navigation is incredibly easy. The customer service I received and the interactions I had with the technician are fantastic. But with the person from Best Care that ordered the parts, it was not so great because she did not keep me updated on what was happening with why they took so long to get the part. She would make a note for herself, but would not let us know and we were left hanging. She wasn't great with communication and I wasn't thrilled with that. Other than that, everything including the technician was great.

When I make a claim with American Home Shield, I call and tell them what’s wrong, and they send somebody out to evaluate the situation. And if I need to get it replaced or repaired, the person sent out will let AHS know. When my dishwasher got damaged, one of the techs sent out by AHS came and evaluated some crack on it. It was wrongly put in and all that. They then sent out another person, and they said the thing needed to be replaced. So, AHS sent another tech that would replace it, but they couldn't hook the new dishwasher up because it had a copper line there. So they sent a plumber out to put it in for me and he did a good job.
I prefer to have an appliance warranty because anything could break. As a customer, I would like for my bill not to be going up all the time. But I have had American Home Shield for well over 10 years and everything went fine for me. That’s something I wouldn’t wanna give up. When my hot water heater broke seven years ago, they put a new one in. I also had new garbage disposal put in. So, American Home Shield is good to have. I recommend them pretty heavily ‘cause they’ve been good to me. And my daughter also got it.

I noticed the furnace wasn't turning on so I went and put a claim in with AHS. And then, my water heater and then my stove stopped working. It was weird that everything that was gas in my house stopped working. I canceled the water heater claim at least 24 hours before the contractor had even contacted me. The contractor called me the next morning, asked about coming out and I said, "I canceled that 24 hours ago. I don't need your services. Thank you for the callback."
I don't think American Home Shield's first initial go-to companies are always the greatest. Like the one that they wanted to have come to my house, I've called and requested a change because I will never have the original company that they requested to ever come to my house again. They didn't fix the problem. They literally broke like six hours later. And when I called the contractor, he told me I needed to file another claim and pay another service fee to have them even come back out to look at it again. I called AHS and just told them that I had a very bad experience with the company they assigned and I wanted to request Thermodyne. And they did it within a matter of three minutes.
I had Thermodyne come out just because I know they're a good company and I wanted to have them check it just in case. They are highly recommended by several people in my family. I have had them out more than once, and they're very knowledgeable and very good people. They had offered to come out that next morning. I have to work so I scheduled it for afternoon again. The contractor did his job but it wasn't something he could fix because it was the gas supplier that needed to do the repair.
So I had Ameren- IT come out, and they found it being the regulator to the main gas valve on my house was bad and that needed to be replaced. I called American Home Shield, and the guy told me that they had to call the contractor. And then, they called the contractor, but the contractor didn't know if they performed the work on my house. So they needed to investigate that. AHS would call me and let me know if they were going to process a refund, and this was over a week ago. From the customer service, I haven't had that many issues. But AHS is horrible at following up and actually keeping the customer informed on what's going on.
There was one time that I needed to speak with a manager, and there were no managers available. So they put a note in my file to have a manager to call me. I literally got a phone call a month and a half later from a manager saying that there was a note in my file that I needed to talk to a manager. The services that they provide are wonderful, but they need to step up the game 100% on their customer service and their follow-up ability.

I got on the internet and told American Home Shield that I was having trouble with my oven. It shuts off during the baking cycle. It’s a double oven, and currently, the bottom one does not shut off but the top one does. Navigating through the AHS website was good and easy. I was told I’d be contacted by a contractor within a certain amount of time, but I was actually contacted sooner than I thought.
A guy from W&W Services came out, and I was really impressed with his professionalism and the kindness of him. I’ve had some time that I’ve been really leery, but he seemed to know what he was talking about. He wasn’t sure what was wrong with my oven, but he attempted to do something with it. He fixed the stove, and it’s been working fine. The oven has been shutting down again, but he’s aware of that. Having the warranty has been very valuable. They’ve been very good when I’ve had issues and I’ve been very pleased with them. They take my concerns seriously, and they attempt to take care of it with a quick process. I’ve referred a few friends to them.

I just decided to go with a Home Warranty, the reason being is that it is going to be cheaper in the long run to have all of my Appliances on one Warranty as I have a Sears Furnace and a Whirlpool Dish Washer which is movable, not built in. and Sears has gone out of business and will not cover me as I am almost 150 miles from the Nearest Sears Store. I have a lot of new Appliances and each one had a Warranty on it, but then when the main Warranty wears off you either have to go with a Service Plan or you have to go with the Lowe's Warranty. I have been doing that with my Appliances as I can't move the diswasher, the new Fridge nor the New Stove or the Hot Water Heater and the list goes on and on.
I have not had to use this new Warranty, but hope that it's good. It has a real small deductible so it will cost me a little money, but they have guaranteed me that they will have a repairman here right away. Otherwise you end up with getting whoever will show up and probably paying anywhere from $150 to $200 for any repairman to show up. Hopefully I have made a good decision at my age.

I wouldn't be able to have this house if I didn't have American Home Shield. Their policy has been the greatest policy I've ever had and every homeowner should have one. Not having it is like not having health insurance. My house was built in 1956 and while it doesn't have a lot of problems, but when it does, it's on the "oh my goodness" level. And AHS has been great. Once, I thought my toilet had a pipe that was leaking and so I called them and submitted a claim. Within two hours, Prestige Plumbing Services called and made an appointment that fit my work schedule. With AHS, I've never had to take a day off of work or make other arrangements when I have a claim. They really make things work out.
When the tech from Prestige Plumbing Services came out, he was friendly and efficient. He saw right away that the issue was with the turn nozzle on the valve. The seals had broken because the plumbing is so old. He had the needed things with him and he cleaned the bathroom himself. He also gave me his card and told me to call him at home if the issue starts happening again. He even called the next day to see if everything was great. I was super happy. Prestige is a great plumbing company and I would use them independently if I needed plumbing work done off of AHS.

Every question that I asked, I got an answer. The repair was quick and easy too. And it's important having the doorbell fixed because when we were upstairs we couldn't hear it. So, being able to have it fixed was convenient. All in all, having the warranty was the best decision I have ever made. On AHS's website they advertise an air conditioning tune-up special for one low price. Nowhere does it state that this tune-up is only for one unit. We have three (3) units at our house and I thought the tune-up special would work out great. Unfortunately, once the technician arrived, and I pointed out all three (3) units, the tech then stated that he was only authorized to look at one (1) unit. You've got to be kidding me. The tech then put AHS on the phone and AHS basically said that the technician was only authorized to look at one (1) unit during this visit.
AHS also stated that if I wanted my other units looked at, I would have to submit a service request for each additional unit. The fun didn't stop there. So the tech found a low coolant level in the unit. He then said that he was not authorized to add coolant. WHAT?? The tech once again got AHS on the phone and they stated that the tech was not authorized to add coolant but to simply point out that coolant was needed. This is a joke right?? What the hell kind of tune-up is that?? So... I had to make another service request to have another tech come out, on a different date, just to simply add coolant. And oh by-the-way, that was $75 per service call. I could've done better with Billy Bob's Air Conditioning service down the street. Very disappointing.

We have now had a 3rd leak which the service provider could not find. We were in the process of replacing the floor when it leaked again. The service provider came out again and could not find the leak. We are hoping that AHS will replace the dishwasher before we install the 3rd floor.

As a new homeowner I thought I was doing the right thing in insisting the purchase of a Home Warranty. I completely believe in the concept but I’m here to warn people to do your homework! Just because a company is the most widely known doesn’t make them the best, and this is the case for American Home Shield. Last night was the second time I’ve had to submit a service request in the past 3 months, and this time it was for a plumber. Because the situation seemed unusual I thought I would send a picture to the email provided in the confirmation for Aaron Heating and Plumbing in Chicago, IL.
When the email came back undeliverable I decided to look up this vendor and discovered they are rated a Grade F by the Better Business Bureau! Their ratings are horrible and endless online. It doesn’t matter that this service is “covered” (of course after you hand over $75 for the service call), I don’t want a company like this to step foot in my home, and neither should AHS if they care about their own reputation.
I tried to call AHS at 9:30PM CST and was on hold for 11 minutes, never got through to anyone. I’ve cancelled the service call and will be calling American Express to block the payment because I’m not waiting a week to be refunded. If you want to provide quality service, you align yourself with quality providers - period. It took me less than 5 minutes to determine Aaron Heating & Plumbing shouldn’t step foot in my home, and it would be the same for AHS. However this is their business model; work with the cheapest service providers they can find because working with quality would mean things get fixed fast and cost a bit more, which doesn’t make them money. I’ve found a reputable plumber via Google Guarantees and although the service call will be more expensive, I feel much more confident that I’ll get what I pay for.

The air conditioning wouldn’t work and I called in a service request with American Home Shield. It was raining for two weeks though and the contractor couldn’t work on electrical air conditioners outside. I didn’t want the person to get electrocuted, so the service took so long. But when the rain had subsided, the contractor went ahead and did the work. This air conditioning system also interfaces with the heating unit and he also checked it out. He looked over the whole system and he did an excellent job. Now, the air conditioning works beautifully. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and it has been a very good working relationship. They've covered me well.

I got a text message before the AHS contractor came out and it had their ETA. They then came out and looked at the freezer but they weren’t able to fix it right away. I had a couple of toilets. I had one that was ridiculously loose and another that didn’t work at all. I had a faucet that was just busted and leaking water everywhere, and a sewer pump that was seized. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and told them I need plumbing. The claim submission experience was super easy and navigating through their website was easy. As soon as this claim was submitted, they sent me an email and a text saying I should be contacted within the next 24 to 48 hours, and I was contacted five hours later.
My interaction with the contractor, Lakeshore Plumbing and Septic, was good. They were perfect. They went through my laundry with me and everything that we had going bad. They were able to tell me that my sink was leaking because of the faucet being busted, and they went out and bought me a new faucet. Then the sewer pump I have was seized and they called the home warranty to check on my coverage on that one before replacing it. They also checked on the coverage while they were on their way to get the faucet. They also said that if it is covered, they'll just buy a new sewer pump, and do it all the same day.
Since then, everything's been great. We were quite pleased with our most recent claim and the issues were taken care of for me. The experience was great. I'm very happy with how fast and efficient the contractor was. Having a warranty for my property has paid for itself multiple times over. Four of the six appliances in my house are brand new because of American Home Shield. I would not buy a house without having a warranty at this point.

Then, when I submitted the claim to be considered for reimbursement, it was denied. They said emergency services were not part of garage door services and that it would have to wait until Monday. The company also had 24 to 48 business hours to schedule my appointment, and I couldn’t wait to get my car out of my garage. It irritated me after being a customer of them for almost 10 years.

When they tried to do the job, they told me I was missing parts, which I wasn’t missing. Now, they said that in order for them to complete the job, they will have to charge me $400. I have a 30-year-old house. Once, I got hit by 10 grand bill for my 30-year-old heating and air conditioning unit that went out and I wasn't able to afford that. I got a home warranty from American Home Shield and it has been helpful as I have a really old house and stuff happens. Once, I filed a claim for my washer as its motherboard was having issues. I file my claims over the phone. There have been times where I have been put on eternal hold, but whenever that happens, I just hang up and call back a different time. I know that there are times where the call volume is higher than other times.
AH Appliance Repair then came out for the washer. What's good about them is that they do all my appliances in the house and so I already know who I'm dealing with. One time, I even asked the tech if I was gonna get them if anything in the kitchen or the washer and dryer goes and he said yes. Another thing that's cool is that on your phone, you get this little text that says where the tech is located on the map and it tells you when exactly he's gonna be at the house. That's really nice for me because I work a lot of hours at a place that's close to home, so if I know I can run home really quick, that makes it more helpful.
The AH Appliance Repair tech replaced my washer's motherboard and the unit is all good now. I've also filed a claim with AHS for my garage door. I knew it was gonna be a tricky claim because the motor died but the repair company came out and replaced one of the doors. In the year and a half that I've had American Home Shield, I've dealt with two different contractors and they've both been very good.

I called and filed a claim with American Home Shield for our heat. They sent this guy out and he replaced an item on the unit. He told me to call him back if anything else was wrong with it or I could call my warranty company to call him. I told him that I would call him if anything happens. After the repair, the heat still did the same thing and a couple of days later it broke. I called the tech but he told me he was on vacation and that I had to call my warranty company. I told him, "You were here, I paid you, you fixed the unit, and now that it's broken again the next day you're telling me to call my warranty company?” But my husband said to not worry. The guy told me to take the filter out since the problem could have been the filter size and he told my husband to get a new one. So, my husband went to Home Depot, bought the filter, and cut it out. And the guy was actually right. The unit worked and the heat came back on.
However, the following day, the heat stopped working again. I texted the guy and he sent me 18 pictures of him in Aruba. He also told me to call my warranty company. I called AHS but nobody was answering, so I went online. But their website didn’t say recall anywhere, it just had heat and furnace. I was freezing and I just had back surgery, so I put furnace because that sounded like the next best thing to put in. I did put heat but it said, "You can't put in the same thing.”
I called AHS again the next morning and I was able to get through really early. The rep I talked to told me to wait until someone got here and she cancelled the claim I filed. Climate Control was then assigned to my claim and Tom was the tech who was supposed to get here in two days. But he called and cancelled. He said he couldn't come out for four days because he broke his rib and had a doctor's appointment. Finally, when he showed up, he was with his 14-year-old son. He took off the big duct by the top of my heater and said that the problem was the unit was not getting enough oxygen to the pilot. He then took the whole duct off, plugged in the duct that’s coming in from the outside, took out the filter, and put it back in. I didn’t know what he did but the unit lit back up again. He was here for 10 minutes then he left. But no sooner than a couple of hours later, there was no heat again.
I called American Home Shield and said that what was happening was ridiculous and that they were not sending me the right guy. I called Tom but he told me that he would be going to a family reunion on Friday and that he wouldn't be back unit Monday. That was three days and there was no way in hell I was gonna wait that long. I already waited for him for four days and the issue was going on for two weeks by then. I was done.
So, I called American Home Shield again and asked them to give me the opportunity to call somebody who was a real heating person. They gave me an outside authorization and I called a ma and pa heating company that was recommended to me by a friend. The guy came out and he told me that the unit's modulator and sensor were out and that it should be fixed because that was what burned everything. He said that if the previous techs fixed those right away, none of these things should have happened. He then fixed the unit and it has worked perfectly ever since. So my experience turned out to be good and now I am satisfied. I've been with American Home Shield for nine years now, on and off, and I love them. I know that the problem was the crazy people they sent out.

Within a few minutes, I started receiving a text saying that they've received my claim and that they were working on it. However, it was over the weekend, so we didn't get anyone over until later. They called me and the techs came out quickly. They were gonna put me a week out, but I told them that we couldn't go without heat that long, so they bumped it up for a couple of days.
The techs came out the first time but realized that our units are on top of our house, so they rescheduled for someone with a ladder truck to come out. He came out and he changed off the thermostat, but within a couple of days, it quit working again. So he came out and went up on the roof and said that it was the computer that was in the system. He ordered the part and he came out the next day and put it in, and it has been working fine. The contractors sent out by American Home Shield were great.

Updated on 03/13/2019: This is an update on my previous review. I'm sorry to say things went from bad to worse. After over an HOUR on hold on 3/11/19, I spoke to a supervisor named June who told me that there was an authorization on file to replace all three faucets. I was pleasantly surprised, although not sure why no one called me to inform me. The following day, June called me back and left me a message stating that she "misunderstood" the authorization, and it is, in fact, to replace only one faucet. Are you kidding me? From not calling back, to the endless holds, to the negligent selection of contractors, and, now, to making a representation and essentially taking it back. This is the worst and most unprofessional company I have encountered.
Original Review: On 3/4/2019, the company that AHS sent to our home to repair a leaky sink arrived at our house. The technician was not only unable to fix the problem, but, in the process of unsuccessfully trying to remove the handles on the sink, the plumber damaged the handles to the point that they now need to be replaced. He caused damage without ever even working on the underlying problem. When he saw that the handles were not removing, it would have been both professional and standard conduct to discontinue what he was doing, call for assistance or let us know that, if he continues to try to remove the handle, he may damage it. He did none of the foregoing.
The company and AHS offered to replace the one handle with a builders grade handle. Replacing one faucet in a bathroom that has two sinks and a bathtub with matching handles is not an adequate or reasonable solution. Certainly, we cannot have different bathroom hardware in the same bathroom. Through the negligence of the plumbing company in their services, and AHS's negligence in selecting a sub-professional company with terrible reviews, we are in a worse position than we were before we called AHS and before the plumber came to our home.
The appropriate solution is for AHS to replace the bathroom hardware on both sinks and the bathtub so that it all matches. I have called AHS 3 times and was told that someone would call me back. No one has to date. The plumbing company is also not responding. I am currently on hold with AHS - it's been 31 minutes. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I'm at the point where I'm preparing to file for arbitration.

I have submitted TWO claims (and paid two deductibles) for the same leaking pipe under my house. On both occasions, the plumbing company did just enough to "fix" the issue for a short period of time. Once the issue popped up again, AHS said that they only guarantee work for 60 days and I would need to file another claim. THREE claims for the same issue is robbery. Oh, and when I called to discuss, the representative would not let me speak to his supervisor and told me "they shared the same opinion on the matter". If you are reading this, please take your business elsewhere, as this company does not care about its customers.

I have had American Home Shield for 9 years. I pay monthly over the years anywhere from $85-95 a month. I am a single woman who purchased this to keep my house/appliances protected over the years and had them come out maybe 5-6 times over the years. This last incident set me over the edge because all I needed was for my pilot to be lit on my water heater. The water heater was replaced 8 years (by American Home Shield) ago and the nice service tech warned me that whoever installed it didn't do it to code and when it needs to be replaced American Home Shield won't cover it. When I called American Home Shield about it trying to make sure it would be covered it took six weeks of back and forth to get no answer.
This is the second time American Home Shield contracted out workers that did the cheapest fix, and again not to code. The first time was for my heater which then I got a fine for the local gas company. Last but not least cancelling my policy. I have cancelled my policy 4 weeks ago and was told it would be cancelled and an email/phone confirmation confirming it along with a prorated check for the month that was not used. I have called twice and have to constantly call and follow up. There are notes in my account but no one is putting the paperwork through, just pushing the paperwork in circles. This company used to be great years ago. As many people have told me, "You're better off saving your $1,000 a year for a just in case, than have to deal with the aggravation of this bogus warranty company."

Warranty came with the house when we bought it in Oct 2013, Jan 2014 furnace was running on Auto EMERGENCY HEAT (basically a giant electric heater inside the unit-causing a $500 monthly electric bill). Call AHS. They dispatch tech, the outside unit was low on Freon, cost $400 (service charge+Freon=$475). This same scenario has repeated every winter since costing a total of $2375 so far. Each time a different company and still none could find a leak. This year when the new technician diagnosed it, he said it was the inside unit which was leaking (never opened it up) and the unit was going to be condemned...then he said he forgot his paperwork and would send info to AHS.
3 days pass, call AHS Rep said they have no documentation that he was here. Husband explained that we are currently have no heat and it’s 35 degrees outside. AHS rep attempted to contact Technician. Being Sunday he didn’t answer. AHS claims Tech has 48 hrs to send paperwork and stuttered when ask to clarify the 48 hrs in which he had to do this (he was here Thursday morning). Today is Monday morning. Currently waiting for a response from AHS. I feel as though I am being taken advantage of, I cannot continue to receive $400+ electric bills NOR can I continue to fill this unit with $300 Freon that will leak from an unknown location.

Our American Home Shield warranty was originally a one-year gift that the realtor presented to us when we bought the house. We liked it and we decided to keep it. However, their financial part is not good right now. This month, for some reason, we got billed and charged something extra after we had our call in for a service. We got charged for the $75 fee, which was fine, but we found another fee when we looked at our bank statement. It was 80 and some change, so I already notified the credit card company to contest it. I called American Home Shield and they had no record of it so something got mixed up there. Another issue I have is that, evidently, we had an increase in the first of the year. It would be nice to get a notification on an increase coming up for the new year since we’ve been a customer for quite a few years. Other than those issues, their service is good.

I had a leak in front of the house, outside my mobile home. I thought it was a pipe leak because I have a septic tank and I thought that it might have been from that. When the plumber came out, he went underneath and he said there was no leak. It was good, but it took a $75 deductible just to find that out. He thought it might be the septic, a sprinkling system that goes out throughout the yard, but it was coming from underneath the home. If I used the shower or if I used the washing machine, when it drained, it came out to the front. It was not going through the pipe, but he felt it underneath and he said it was running through the pipe when I drained it.
I submitted the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and the interaction I had with the claims representative was great. They were telling me the contractor would be dispatched out between 4:00 and 8 o'clock p.m., but it changed and they sent me another message that it would be between 5:00 and 9 o'clock p.m. It was a late time for a plumber to come out. It was dark and I didn't know how he would figure out what to do. But the guy was good. He looked through everything and it didn't take a matter of time. He did not waste any time.
I also had electrical problems where my bathroom electrical lines were not working. I put my dryer and plugged it in, and it must have blown the fuse. I wasn't getting either bathroom to work and I wasn't aware that the circuit breaker was off. That was one problem with the electrician and it cost me $75 for him to tell me, "Well, your breaker was off." We had where our heater wasn't working and it turned out that when the electrician was doing something, he had to start something off outside with the gas tank, the propane. They shut it off outside but didn't turn it back on, so my heating unit was not working. It was another $75 wasted. The tech came out to find out that the propane guy turned the gas off outside and that was why we couldn't get any heat. I wasted $75 each time that it could've been something fixed.

There was a blockage in the sewer and the water was not going through. I filed my claim to American Home Shield online and later over the phone because initially, they could not understand. Someone else had to come so I was communicating over the phone. Street Plumbing & Rooter had to come out a few times and they tried to get the sewer cleaned up. After a few days, we saw the same blockage again. The blockage did not flush out completely when they put the initial snake, which was a smaller one and was good for 2 to 3 inches. But the guy who came towards the last visit had a bigger snake which is good for the 4-inch pipe. He did a good job and now it's resolved.

I made a claim on my appliances with American Home Shield. I read through the contract and it said that I could pay one deductible for all the appliances, so that was what I did. The main issue is with the washing machine. It had several problems. Number one, my daughter and I both thought that we smelled something burning as it was going through the cycle and also, it would not drain. So, it would go through the entire cycle and then I’d go to put it in a dryer and the water was still in the washer. Then the hot water didn’t come out of it as well. We also thought maybe it could be the dryer was smelling like it had a burning smell.
Then I had the microwave. It doesn’t cook like a normal microwave and it makes all these terrible noises. I didn’t think it was functioning properly which with microwave made me a little afraid about that. Then two of the four burners of my stove would just keep getting hot. There wasn’t a temperature regulation and that included the oven as well. Any time I put it over 400, it would just keep getting hot and everything burned. The first time I used it, I set off all the smoke alarms in my house. It was very scary.
The first time we called AHS, the technician was able to rule out that it wasn’t the dryer that had a burning smell and that it was a rubber piece in the washing machine. The tech then replaced the timer and he said that everything worked fine. Then the first load of laundry that I did, the water did not drain again. I immediately called back. The tech was able to fix the stove though or at least he replaced parts. I still don’t think it’s operating right. Also, he was not able to take care of the microwave because the only way he could access the parts was from the top and my house is older and there’s a façade up there that I have to remove so the tech can get to the top of it. I’m a little disappointed in that. I wish he would’ve said something when he first came out and I would’ve had that done.
I called back in January and it is now the middle of March and my washing machine still doesn’t work. I haven’t heard back from them from the second time they came out. They have told me that I need a new drain pump. I’m not 100% happy but they’re very nice though. Eric has been the same person that has come out and he was very polite. I’m just curious as to why it takes so long. They have to come out and assess the issue which I understand. Then he has to go back and order parts. But the first time, it was almost two weeks. They say they’re gonna be here between 8:00 and 2:00 but they come at 2:00. It has always been the latest time.
The coverage that I have with the home warranty is awesome. I do understand that they're trying to repair the item rather than replace it but I wish that it was more comprehensive. I am disappointed that I have to not only take days off to be at home just so that they can try to fix it, where if it was a replaced item or even if it was a used item if I called a repair place, they would come out and fix it that day. I feel like we’re having to jump through different hoops with AHS. I try to cut them a little bit of slack but I would like to have a functioning microwave and washing machine. My sister is very tired of me coming over to do my laundry there in her house.
Good afternoon Peggy,

The dryer was making a weird noise. I made the claim with American Home Shield on the phone and the wait time to speak to an actual agent was a headache. I need the customer service to be a little expedited. You could do it online, but for someone like me who is a little more traditional or old school, I just get the phone and call somebody, and it is hard to get a hold of a representative. It is usually anywhere from a 10 to a 45-minute wait.
The interactions I had with the representative was fine but the call went to another country because I was having difficulty understanding. I said that I needed my dryer fixed and I told them what was going on, and they finally were able to get somebody. They called me and they had a work order on my schedule. It took a couple of days for them to come out, but it was fine and they did it on my schedule. Apparently, the bearings in the dryer went out, so the techs fixed the bearings. However, the next time I used the dryer, it started making noise again but double the noise, so the repair performance was a poor. I called the company back again and they had to come back out and fix it. They were able to make the final repairs on the second time and it is working fine now.

I had an appliance claim with American Home Shield for my washing machine. The first man they sent out said that there were two parts that he needed. Then a different man came to install and he decided that it only needed one part. He only put one part in and from then on, I had trouble. They kept coming back to fix that same part after a month. I also kept having water sounds and all that kind of stuff. The company that was fixing it, couldn't fix it. Then AHS wound up calling Sears to come out and do it. It took a while for the washing machine to be fixed entirely and it wasn't a good experience. I wash every day since I have blankets. And if I couldn't wash, it was overall affecting the house with what was going on.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was very easy. But a year and a half ago, it was very difficult. I'd be put on hold for a good hour and a half, and it was like an endurance test to see if I could actually get it through. This time, I just got through and did not take that long at all. Speaking with their reps was good. They just ask me what the problem then tells me that they are gonna get such and such contractor to call me. Then the contractor calls and we set up a time.
The person that came out most recently from Service Giant was great. I had a problem with my garbage disposal. Then I also had a problem with my sump pump in the crawl space. It had been replaced a long time ago, when I first started with AHS, and it stopped. It broke and didn’t work anymore. There was a little bit of leak in addition to that. He was very professional and wanted to get my problems fixed. I've been with American Home Shield closer to three years now and they're doing well. I had an emergency where there was a leak on the back of my toilet and the water was coming out quickly. It happened around 9:30 at night and I immediately called American Home Shield. However, they told me they don’t do emergency service and that I have to call in the morning. When I couldn’t find someone to come out, I called them back that night and asked if they could get me someone first thing and they said they could. So, I just had to deal with the problem, and it was horrible. American Home Shield sent someone out the next morning and the guy was here at 8 AM. He was extremely professional. He rang the doorbell, introduced himself, looked at the problem and then told me what he was gonna do. He had the issue resolved within an hour and a half. He was great.
Overall, I’ve been happy with American Home Shield. The people have been professional and they contract with great companies. I just feel that in some situations, it’s kind of game-ish. American Home Shield is always trying to find ways out of covering things and paying for our claims. I don’t like that at all because I am dedicated to paying my bill every month. They take it out of my account. They covered my last claim and it was great but I had a situation with my AC where they didn’t cover many things. In addition to the $125 service call and the monthly $40 I pay them, I had to pay an additional amount because they found ways not to cover things. It cost me $500 including their $125 fee. I’m a new homeowner and that to me is really crappy. Those are things that should be discussed upfront. I’m not an AC professional, so I don’t know all the components of an air conditioning and what’s covered and not. Some things that were not covered were very costly and unexpected, and I felt would’ve been covered with having a home warranty.

I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield for our water heater. The website was user-friendly and I was able to find what I needed. It had a button that said, "Issue Claim," and I did it that way. It was easy and I was able to do it late at night. The website stated that I could expect to hear something within 24 hours. However, it was after a day and a half when I've heard back that the company Emergency Plumbing and Rooter would be coming out. Still, that was fine and was expected because it was late at night when I submitted the claim.
We had problems with our water heater where it was making loud sounds like explosions so the contractor company checked it. The guy was great and very professional. My husband was home, so he was able to talk to him, and he explained what he was going to be doing and how long it would take. He confirmed that we needed to have the water heaters changed out 'cause it was a possible issue that it could explode. So, both units were changed out and have been great since. I was very pleased with the service and that was a very positive experience. In fact, I've shared with several people my experience and how it's benefited us having American Home Shield.
When I signed with American Home Shield, I wasn't thinking about my water heaters. But it so happened that they covered it. If I wouldn't have had it, we would have had to pay for the full replacement of both. We had to pay for the plumbing portion as well, which was expensive. And if we had to pay for everything, it would have been triple that amount. So, having a warranty is very valuable. We've had American Home Shield for about a year and a half now and I plan to keep it. I highly recommend them too.

Water heater still leaking with no response from AHS - I contacted American Home Shield in mid February to report a leak in my water heater. They were quick in sending out a plumber to diagnose them the damage and the needed repairs. The plumber came out the following week and I was contacted by American Home Shield the next day. The voicemail I received from American Home Shield indicated that none of the repairs were covered. I immediately contacted American Home Shield and asked for another review of the plumber's recommendation. After the review I was told by the representative that she was able to get some of my repairs covered. American Home Shield covered a little over $400, my responsibility was over $1000. How is it that customers pay hundreds of dollars a year in monthly dues but when they need services American Home Shield pays little or nothing at all?
When the plumber visited my home, the first question I asked was does my water heater need to be replaced. The water heater is over 20 years old and I had already mentally prepared my mind that the answer was going to be yes and that I would incur out-of-pocket cost. To my surprise, the technician said that yes the heater was old but that it was in good working order and did not need to be replaced. He said that if I completed the recommended repairs that he suggested I would be in good shape with the heater. Therefore, I agreed to have the recommended services performed. The plumber returned on Thursday completed the repairs but indicated that the water needed to be turned off for 24 hours while the system was flushed. A different technician returned on Friday, turned my water back on and let me know that all of the repairs were completed and that the leaking issue resolved.
This turned out not to be the case. I returned home from traveling on Monday to be confronted by my neighbor alerting me that they were still experiencing issues at their home as a result of the leak from my water heater. I contacted the plumber immediately and received a visit at my home around 8:30 PM that evening. The technician found the source of the leak and indicated that the valve was corroded and should be replaced. However, later that evening around 915 I received a call from that same technician to inform me that per her manager, the resolution was to place a cap over the valve. She said that someone would be at my home the next day to place the cap.
After thinking about it through the night, I was very concerned that with the fact that the valve was corroded, placing the cap would only serve as a temporary solution and I would likely have to contact AHS in a few short months, incur another service fee, only to be told that the valve needs to be replaced. I contacted the plumber the very next morning and voiced my concern but I heard nothing back. I contacted American Home Shield that same day and voiced that same concern and indicated that I preferred a permanent fix even if I had to pay for it myself.
The American Home Shield representative said that he understood my concern, placed me on hold, and contacted the plumber. When he returned to the line, he indicated that the master plumber and the technician would be contacting me that day to make an appointment to come back to my home to take a look at the leak. The other interesting thing that happened while on the call is that the representative read the plumber's notes to me which indicated that my water heater would need to be replaced.
This was In total contradiction to the response I received when questioning the plumber about the need to replace the unit. I was never contacted as I was told by the plumber nor did American Home Shield follow up to ensure that I received a visit. It was not until Thursday evening that I received a visit from a plumber. The plumber was instructed not to bother me and that he was simply to place them on the valve without interrupting me. He indicated that since he saw my car in the driveway he decided to knock to let me know what he was doing. I asked if he was aware of the concerns that I’ve voiced regarding the and that I preferred a permanent fix. He was not aware. He placed them and left.
The cap did not resolve the leak and so on Sunday I contacted American Home Shield again. I explained the entire situation to the representative who documented my complaint said that she would out reach to the plumber and even provided me with a reference number. It is now a week later on Sunday, still no reply from the plumber, still no follow up from American Home Shield, and yes, the water heater is still leaking. I’ve reverted to placing down towels and a bowl to catch the leaking water.
I am more than disappointed in American Home Shield and the plumber. I am convinced that American Home Shield only contracts with vendors who they know will do patch up work and band aid repairs. They are very happy to take their customers money but do very little to ensure customers are taken care of especially in situations where customers complain of subpar, incomplete and unsatisfactory work on the part of their contracted vendors. At this point, I feel as though my only recourse is to find and hire a plumber outside of my home warranty. I will never refer anyone to American Home Shield. In fact I will warn everyone I can away from this company and I will not renew my contract when it expires in September.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We purchased a home in Florida in October 2019 and it came with warranty from American Home Shield (AHS). We just had our first claim and it was a TERRIBLE experience. Our air conditioner stopped working on Feb 23 and it was not fixed until March 7... 13 days!!! Totally unacceptable! AHS had to get the technician's report saying we needed a new compressor, then get the compressor purchase authorized. Then AHS ordered the compressor themselves instead of just letting the air conditioning company get it, that in and of itself added another 5 days just waiting for it to be delivered.
There was no sense of urgency from anyone at AHS. The customer service reps just told us what we wanted to hear, whether it was factual or not. We even asked for a call from a supervisor - was told "no supervisors on duty" - that a supervisor would call us within 24-48 hours. Did we ever get a call? NO. I would NOT, under any circumstances, recommend buying a home warranty from this company.

You can't talk about American Home Shield without the word "Fraud" coming up. In my latest go around with them, my torsion spring broke on my garage door. I have additional coverage for garage door openers. Thinking that since the spring was required for the garage door opener to operate that it would be covered, I called them to schedule a repair. They contacted a service technicians and within 2 days they came out. The service tech called for authorization and was denied because the spring was part of the "door" and not the opener.
Now being stuck with a non operational door, I had to get it serviced. The technician told me how much the repair would be, and I paid the full amount. I later receive a charge for my trade service call from AHS, even though they denied coverage. When calling them to complain, they said that since I used them to contact a technician, I still owed them the fee. So this company will charge you even though they deny claims. FRAUD. FRAUD. FRAUD!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

They were so good. Since then, our pipe has been perfect. However, it seems to be very hard to reach anybody if you make a call to get a service. AHS need to improve on that, if possible.

Something broke under my faucet. It started off as the hot water popped off. After that, I had to get everything replaced at the bottom. The contractor that AHS sent out said that the part that they looked at had been broken off so they didn't cover it. My house was 20-something years old. My ex-husband tried to fix it and it broke off when he was trying to turn it. So, of course, they were saying that it was broken off so they wouldn't cover it. Nevertheless, the guy that came out was good. He fixed it but I ended up having to pay $225 out of pocket, plus the $100 that I had to pay American Home Shield. So far, the people that AHS have used were slow and some were terrible. In fact, when my refrigerator needed a compressor back during the early part of fall, I was without a refrigerator for three weeks.

The motor on the ceiling fan in the master bedroom was out and I filed a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online which I prefer because I don't have to look at the clock and make sure I'm calling between certain hours. The technician they've sent out have always been fantastic. But this time, I'm disappointed that I'm left to get my own fan. The ceiling fan is still not working and the company that came out said that the warranty company would cash it out and send me a check, which would cover the installation for them to come out and install a new one. But still, I have to contact Hunter to get a new fan.
I’ve been with AHS since 2009 and this was an isolated incident. Every time I've called before, they've always been awesome in taking care of things. The only other problem I had was I had a company that I paid to come out twice a year to do checks on the AC and the heater, and there was a problem with the AC. The company I use is not part of AHS and when AHS sent somebody out, they said it wasn't a problem. So, their technician had a difference of opinion than what mine did. This last one left a bad taste in my mouth but AHS has always been good and never had any problems.

The thermostat on my water heater went out and I didn’t have hot water in the middle of winter. I submitted a claim with AHS online and it was fairly simple and convenient to do. Then the guys from Blue Ridge Mountain Plumbing showed up and they were very nice. They came a little bit early, did the job and got it all completed on the same day. It was urgent that they came and they got there as soon as they could, and I was thankful to have hot water after that. I’ve had AHS for seven years and I haven’t had any issues except when my AC unit went out last year, which caused me to stop doing business with them for a couple of months.

I've had AHS for a long time. We've owned this house for nine years and we've had it even before we've had this house. It's the one I started with so I stayed with them. So far, I've only had one claim, the one for my garbage disposal, and I submitted it over the phone. The experience was perfect. Their reps were courteous and as helpful as they could be. They had very quick response. Their contractor came out and checked the problem, and then they came out and replaced the garbage disposal. The plumber that they sent out was very personal, explained to me what was going on and told me what I needed to do, and everything worked out fine.

My wiring in the kitchen was not working as the light wasn't coming on. I called and talked with the American Home Shield representative to let them know that I needed someone to come out. I was informed via text and email to expect the contractor. Then within 24 to 48 hours, the contractor called and let me know when they would be out. When the guy arrived, he was very professional and fantastic. He completed the job and also let me know what the issue was and where it was. I wasn't able to see really well without the lighting and so everything changed when that was fixed it.
I'm happy that I have American Home Shield because if something breaks down, I'm comfortable and happy to know that I have them available for me to get the repairs done. My home is about 14 years old, so things are gonna start wearing down. Knowing that I have American Home Shield is awesome because they get it done. It's very valuable and I tell my neighbors that they should get it.

Having a warranty on my property is very valuable. But with American Home Shield, there’s always an issue and I need to have somebody come out twice or they can’t seem to fix the problem. For example, the garage guy came out here and he had to change my garage door. He gave me a remote. I have two cars and it has to be standard to give me two remotes. But he said that I have to pay extra if I wanted it. Another time was when I was out without a stove for a month. The first guy who came out was really nice. He said he was gonna order some pieces, but I heard nothing. I called back and I was told that it was closed because he couldn’t fix it. I was having a dinner party then and I was stressing out about it. Then I got ahold of a local rep and he was excellent. He was Johnny-on-the-spot.
The last contractor who went here didn’t speak English very well so it was very difficult talking to him. When I asked him to look at my dishwasher, he came in, looked at it, cleaned the filter and then brushed off the top of the dishwasher. Then he said he cleaned the calcium off. I said that I've done that and I needed him to at least run the dishwasher. He said that there was nothing wrong with my dishwasher and left. He wanted me to sign the paperwork but I said that I won't sign it because he didn’t do anything. I called AHS and I complained, and got the reply that the contractor said it was a calcium buildup and that he cleaned it up, but I still have the same problem. Lastly, submitting a claim with American Home Shield on the phone is ridiculous. It takes no less than three hours on a usual call. I haven’t talked to somebody, and they put me on hold. There are other companies that do what AHS does and I would go to them.

I did a claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioning, and the guys who came out were very professional. They came in and they did what they had to do. The tech told me what the problem was, diagnosed it and took care of it. And so far, everything is still working good. It was a great experience. It’s well-worth the money.
Good morning Courtney,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated regarding your most recent service experience. We are pleased to hear about the technician that repaired your air conditioner unit.

I am involved with several properties and I've used my parents' service persons, but they are all going to the wayside, so I have to rely on home warranties. American Home Shield has been very good. My heater wasn't working and the process of submitting the claim with American Home Shield was easy. They called and got the information, then they contacted Crispy Air & Heating in an instant. Crispy Air & Heating sent me a text when they were gonna be coming out and they gave me a window. They were on time and were courteous. I live in a remote area, but they were able to find the house and service the unit and get it going, although there was some difficulty and they had to get parts.
However, I'd like to see American Home Shield be more consistent with the same guy. That was the only issue because even though they took great notes, they were reading from what the other guy did. I wanna stay with the same person. There are two that are good and they seem to know the unit well, so those are the two that I like being out there if they are gonna work on it. I would recommend the service, nevertheless. If you have any difficulties, the key thing is communication and as long as there is communication going, I don't have a problem.

APC Plumbing, the company that American Home Shield contracted for my plumbing claim, handled the service poorly. The technician they sent out was not knowledgeable at all. They told us the water supply line was bad and needed to be replaced. I called out an independent plumber and it was just a quarter-turn valve that was bad. It’s a $4 valve versus a $5,000 job. The people that AHS sends out to do these home service calls are apprentice people. They’re not licensed, masters-of-their-trades people. I got a 24-year-old that showed up to my house and he was supposed to be a licensed plumber but he’s an apprentice. I looked at him and there was no way in hell that this kid knows what the hell he was doing.
I didn’t bring it to American Home Shield's attention though because, in the past, when we bring it to their attention, they have nothing to say except they go by what the contractor said. Also, when I ask for a different plumber, there are only two plumbers, so it’s the lesser of the two evils. This entire thing is not the first time that it has happened and it’s a continuing saga. Whatever home warranty company I go with next when this one expires, I go through the same saga with them. It seems like it’s a thing with all home warranty companies these days.

I was having a problem with the toilet. I saw water on the floor so I thought I had a leaky toilet. I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and got the automated system. Then, someone called me back and I explained what I saw, that I thought it was a leak, and they said they would get back to me and let me know who was coming out. They followed-up and Dave & Sons Plumbing called and introduced themselves. The good thing about it was, when they sent me a notice that it was their company, they sent a picture of the actual service person, so I knew who was at my door. I thought that was the best thing in the world, so you know who you’re dealing with.
It was excellent, very pleasant, and very professional. The guy came in and checked the toilet. He couldn’t figure out what was going on at first and then we kept hearing this funny noise and he thought as well that it was a leak in the toilet because he said it makes that kind of noise. But when he fixed the toilet, we kept hearing it. He couldn’t find it. We thought maybe it would have been behind the wall or something like that. He checked everything, without tearing down the walls. We even checked the security alarm system. He took the batteries out of the smoke alarm but it wasn't that. He was very, very thorough even though he was there trying to figure out what was going on. He reported it back to American Home Shield and they said they don’t come out for noises.
We finally figured out the noise but it wasn’t what normally we thought it would have been. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. My only thought was as a home owner, I don’t know what noises are. I don’t know where they come from. We just know that there was a consistent noise. I would think that they would have sent someone to try to locate the source of the noise, to find out if it’s something that they do handle or not because I have no clue. But I was not dissatisfied with the experience.

I call American Home Shield to submit claims and the reps usually explain things well. Then, I usually wait for a few hours for a contractor to come out and if they don't call me, I call them. They're always on time, they're very efficient, and they fix everything. They’re polite and clean as well. I had Air Star Services for a heating issue and their services were excellent. The heater is now working fine.

I was having some toilet problems in my son’s bathroom so he had to use another bathroom. My claim submission experience with American Home Shield was easy and quick. The contractor, Loftin Mechanical Inc, came out quickly. I was given an expectation when a contractor will be out and it was a couple of hours on that day. The experience with them was friendly. Since the repair, the toilet is performing well.
I would have had to pay out a lot more money if not for AHS as I use it for my rental property as well. I've had some issues with them. Last time, the claim was for my rental property. I had a Realtor that managed that property so there was a lot of confusion - the timeframe of being put on hold, then one operator telling us one thing about the whole payment issue and another one telling us something different. I wasn’t supposed to be charged for one time that their contractor came out because it was a mix-up. But I just went ahead and paid it. The other issue was I did not like Walston Mechanical before because of the issues that we had at my rental property, and I let them know when they came out that I wasn’t too happy about that. Other than that, they were good when they came out to my house.

I would like to say that American Home Shield is a damn joke! For a gushing leak they can’t get anyone out till MONDAY!! Home buyers and owners beware. This company is worthless. Just 3 weeks ago I got someone out on a Sunday at 8:00 pm for a leak but I placed a request at 10 am this morning and it won’t get a response till Monday! So we get to go 48 plus hours without water. What am I paying for?!?
Good morning McCall,
Your concerns are understood regarding the delay in 24 hour service to have the leak repaired. I wold be glad to speak with you and assist with a resolution.

American Home Shield is a fraudulent insurance company that collects high premiums and denies claims as a matter of practice. Once a client has a few claims, they increase premiums and deny all claims in an effort to get you to cancel your contract since they are not allowed to drop you. Our sump pump failed 2-3 years ago. We put in claim with American Home Shield (AHS), their contractor came out and replaced it and they covered it. Recently, the sump pump magnetic float failed so it was running constantly. We put in a claim with AHS, they sent out a contractor who said it needed to be replaced. He called it in to AHS, and this time, they denied the claim stating it was not covered because it was supposed to be ground water only and there was condensation from the heater/AC going into it.
When I followed up with AHS, they claimed the contractor told them it failed prematurely failed due to the water PH being highly acidic from the heater condensation. She stated the contractor had actually tested the PH. I spoke to the contractor and he told me he never tested the PH of the water and only told AHS the float had failed and never claimed to know why it failed. So - they basically lied and tried to lay blame on the contractor and alter "his" report.
Regardless of why the float failed, the true issue is that AHS put the sump pump in themselves and now they are saying they will not cover it. I elevated the claim with them based on the fact if there was an issue with the sump pump their approved contractor installed, it is on AHS and not me. They then said they were going to send out the original contractor who installed the sump pump to get a second opinion. I asked how a second opinion would make any difference and she stated they would then put the blame on the contractor. I am paying AHS and they are putting the customer in the middle - I am paying AHS and they are responsible for their contractor's work and educating them on what is and isn't covered.
Next, the original contractor came out. He explained to me that he has been replacing sump pumps for AHS for many years and only in the last couple years did they suddenly start denying them based on the "ground water" claim. He stated the set up for our sump pump is standard and how most sump pumps he sees are set up. He stated that the amount of water coming from the heater/AC unit was minimal and would not affect the overall PH of the ground water and that even if it did, the sump pump/magnet was plastic based which would not be affected by the PH anyway. AHS was also claiming there was condensation coming from our tankless hot water heater which he said was not true - there is an emergency release valve coming off the hot water heater but nothing comes out of it unless there is an emergency. This "ground water" clause is just another way for AHS to deny a claim.
I spoke to AHS today and they told me they are denying the claim due to the "ground water" claim. They completely changed their tune that high ph/water caused the pump to prematurely fail and are now say that it failed from "old age!?" The sump pump was installed less than 3 years ago. They take no responsibility for the fact that they installed the sump pump. How can they not cover something they installed themselves??
This is a reoccurring theme. They state they cover appliances in the garage but when we put in a claim for our refrigerator in the garage, they denied the claim based on it failed not from normal wear and tear but because of conditions to it being in the garage. That make no sense - if they are going to cover appliances in the garage, it is going be in the conditions of a garage! They ordered the wrong part for our dishwasher and wouldn't reorder the correct part claiming they do not guarantee color matching so my dishwasher was going to be 2 different colors.
We have been customers with AHS for approximately 8 years and during this time, the monthly premiums have increased while the coverage has decreased. We should have canceled years ago. I feel like I am in the movie The Rainmaker where I am dealing with a fraudulent insurance company who charges high premiums but denies the claims as a matter of practice and forces customers to fight for the coverage we have already paid for.
Good morning Julie,
As a customer for more than 8 years, your frustration is greatly understood. I understand your concerns regarding the claim denials and overall most recent experience. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.
