My garbage disposal was leaking and it wasn’t working right. It was going on a while. I just had surgery and had a week off. I was at home, so I got it done. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and the contractor who came out was very good. He did an excellent job and he was very professional. He got the job done and did it right. I filed on a Friday and it was two days before he came out but it’s all good right now.

I called American Home Shield and told them I was having issues with our refrigerator which stopped making ice. When I push the water dispenser, it would stop working. Eventually, it just stopped cooling and kept getting warmer and warmer, until finally, we just pulled all the food out of it and unplugged it. We’re brand new to AHS. One of my dearest friends uses them and heat is over in Hondo where we had our real problems. He said AHS is the best thing he ever got and that it’s great, especially as you get older. I never heard anybody complain about them. So, we contacted the company and they put in a request for us. They took a $100 deductible, and then they had a company got back in touch with us just a few days later. A different company then actually did the repair because the first company they sent out didn’t work on that type of freezer. So they send the second folks out, which was Restore Home Service. They were nice people.
Their tech checked our refrigerator out and said there's a problem with the compressor. He explained all the compressor issues. I guess our friends at Sears decided to change from Whirlpool to LG and put in inferior components and they’re having all these problems with these customers all of a sudden. So this is a well-documented fiasco from our friends at Sears. Also, I guess they had to do whatever to get a component ordered, they went through his explanation. So I called up the company because it was taking a little bit and asked what was happening. He told me they've got the part already and that they're just waiting for the approval.
They finally contacted us and said they got our part in. They set up the appointment for Dylan to come in and set it in on a Tuesday. He actually got here three hours early, which I thought was cool. He sat down and explained exactly what the other guy had explained to my wife. They had agreed that the refrigerator would get fixed for the initial problems, which I thought was outstanding. He did the job. It turned it on, and it’s cooling, but it’s just not working properly yet. So I called and talked to them again today, and the owner of the company who had called me back explained the EOP with these.
They're putting in smaller compressors that don’t work as hard which is supposedly, saving me money. This is asinine because based off from my understanding of mechanics, again, been a car dealer for 34 years, why would you put something that’s operating its highest capacity to work, when you can put something a little bit bigger, maybe not totally energy-efficient, but it’s gonna last longer and work better. Still, their rep explained it’s gonna take a few more days to get it cold enough for everything to work properly in the system. He told me to make sure that nobody opens the doors or anything else, and that he would follow-up with me next Tuesday, between 3:00 to 5:00, unless everything corrected itself and then to please give them a call. That was all done very professionally and straightforwardly. I’m very pleased with the service.

After my dryer stopped working, I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I really needed the dryer but it was Saturday then and the person I spoke to told me that they have no one to send out since it was a weekend. I felt that they should have set up an appointment then but I was told that somebody would contact me the following Monday to do that. Someone did call me on Monday and the repair company came out on Tuesday. The repair company that came was very prompt, professional, and they were able to fix the issue.

I've had American Home Shield since I purchased the house in 2007, and they’ve been doing a excellent job. I’ve told several people about them. I had some drainage stoppage issues and they sent out some plumbers to get it taken care of for me. I made the claim online and they sent me a text message, then I got a call the next day.

I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield for the pool heater. It was an easy process and the contractor came out within 48 hours. The tech was on-time, got it handled within the day, and made sure everything was working properly before he left.

I had a leak in my dishwasher and when I called in to American Home Shield, they said somebody would call me within so many hours. But the call came almost immediately. I set up an appointment and Maughanster Appliance and Repair came out. A gasket had worn out and they put one in then tested it. It hasn’t leaked since. The technician was very good too. He was right on time. I was actually surprised because I had about an hour for lunch and that was when I came back from work. He was right behind us when we pulled up and he fixed it quickly then off he went. I went back to work and I was only gone for about an hour.

4 months and multiple companies only to say not covered. We had a leaking problem with the radiant heat in our floors. We went back and forth with various AHS agents for months with them sending out different vendors -- some boiler companies, some plumbers -- all of which would end up saying they did not do that service. It took them four months, after having them approve our own expert come, to finally say that radiant heat wasn't even covered under our warranty. What a waste of time -- tens and tens of hours. They refunded the service fee which was the least they could do. The only way I got real answers was to write a Facebook message, and then they answered my questions on Facebook Messenger as a direct line.

Buyer beware! Home warranty companies are for-profit organizations. You will pay more into it than you get out of it. This is a business and they are out to make money like every other business. They are not really out to help the homeowner. They will charge you a "reasonable" rate. Something you feel that is not much a month compared to paying for an air conditioning system. But, if you file a claim, you will pay MUCH more out of pocket than you expect. Based on my experience with AHS over the past 24 months, they send poor-quality contractors to your house and will not help you when they do sloppy work. AHS sent out a contractor 2 years ago who damaged the suction line on my heat pump while replacing the compressor. The technician admitted to melting a copper coating from the line. The coating is necessary to make a good seal. He created a leak that cannot be permanently repaired.
I have made AHS aware of this multiple times. I have had 2 contractors (one AHS sent, and one I chose) look at the unit within the past 10 days and agree the unit could be "fixed", but only temporarily. So, based on the ability to "fix" the unit, AHS has offered me $245 for repairs. The (temporary) "repair" costs over $1,000. Then, I get to do the same repairs again in a few months when it starts leaking again, just like it has done 3 times in the past 24 months. I can't afford to keep paying $800 once or twice a year AND pay American Home Shield $715/year on top of that. I did the only reasonable thing and paid $3200 out of my pocket to replace the heat pump, hoping AHS would be fair and pay a portion of the replacement. They are choosing to repay me $245 (their original offer for repair costs) and lose me as a customer.
You are better off putting $50-60/month in a savings account. But, if you must have a home warranty, please do some research. Most good reviews are from people that didn't file a claim or filed a big one within the few year and got real value from their investment. For the most part, home warranty is a waste and especially a home warranty from American Home Shield.

Our ice maker wasn’t working when we submitted a claim to American Home Shield through their website. Navigating through it was really easy. We were given a four-hour window for the contractor to come out and they were at the beginning of that range. The technician was very nice and friendly too. He was really good and I liked him. He was also completely clear in what he was doing. He replaced the icemaker and everything has been operating perfectly since then. Having this warranty is valuable and so far, it's been great. We've had several claims and they've all gone well.

Easy website but difficult to get claim approved. Simple faucets that are damaged due to normal wear and tear, as noted by contractor, are not covered because they say it was damaged due to force. Never contacted me to say why the repairs were denied. I will not be renewing and definitely never recommending this company. Very unprofessional customer service.

I have been a customer for nearly a year. Every time a request a repair, I am scheduled with a sketchy contractor. Recently, I needed a plumber to repair a leaking faucet. The contractor arrived and was arguing with me about my problem. I had to schedule my own plumbing company to come repair the problem and pay out of pocket. I called the customer service line and they were unwilling to reimburse my fee. They wouldn't let me speak with a manager about the issue and simply said, "We cannot help you any further". I will not renew my contract and will never deal with this company again.

Updated on 03/29/2019: I previously posted a review about trying to get AHS to repair my refrigerator (it's been more than 2 weeks). They have marked the review Resolution in Progress or something like that. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The company sent me an email asking me to call (guess they couldn't find my phone number?) and this week alone, I have spent more than 2 hours on the phone with AHS customer service reps, left four voicemails and sent 2 emails. No response except the one email saying - please call us.
Based on this experience, I believe the corporate strategy is to make me so frustrated that I will give up and pay for the repair myself. Notice that the responses to all of the negative reviews use the exact same words. Just like the verbal responses I get when I call and ask to speak to a supervisor. Then they put me on hold for 15-60 minutes and come back and say that they are sorry but the supervisor is still not available.
It shouldn't be so hard to get a simple answer on why they refuse to fix the refrigerator. I have done my part - I paid the fees, I called when the email asked me to call to discuss. AHS - do your part. I truly wish they would post the one-star reviews on the AHS website because all of the reviews they post make everything look easy. Don't risk it. If you must have a home warranty, FIND ANOTHER COMPANY.
Original review: I am not sure how to get American Home Shield's attention. It appears that the employees read from a script and when you ask a question not covered by the script, the answer is "I understand" and then they go back to the script. My refrigerator has been broken for more than 2 weeks. AHS promptly sent out a technician who diagnosed the problem and said that it was covered under the KitchenAid warranty so AHS won't fix the refrigerator (after I paid the service fee of course).
KitchenAid will fix the refrigerator but charge me another service fee (double the AHS fee) because they won't accept another technician's diagnosis. So I would have been better off not having AHS because at least the refrigerator would be fixed - and only one fee, with only 30 minutes on the phone instead of the more than 2 hours I have spent trying to get out of the catch-22. The AHS warranty was part of our home purchase but lesson learned...if the appliances are new and still under warranty, AHS does NOTHING for you - except charge a service fee.
Good afternoon Thurraya,
Your concerns are understood regarding the appliance service claims. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues that you have experienced.

I just moved into my home and was just getting the locks changed. That was one of the services offered with my American Home Shield warranty. I contacted them online to set up the service and it was really easy using their website. I was done in less than a minute after logging in. Almost immediately, like maybe 20 minutes, someone from their contractor Pop-A-Lock of Baltimore contacted me. She was able to come the same day because I had other services being done that day. She was done changing all the of the locks in my home and it wasn't even an hour. There were three doors and they had two locks each. I had Comcast there and she was done before Comcast was finished doing what they had to do. I was very pleased and with no complaints.
Also, it was convenient that American Home Shield was able to give me an invoice for my closing. I had actually looked into other warranties and they were not able to do that for me. I hope not to have to utilize American Home Shield but it's there as an insurance or comfort for me knowing that I'm covered in the event that anything happens. I will definitely refer my friends over to AHS as they are in the initial of purchasing new homes.

We call American Home Shield to submit our claims and our interaction with their claims reps has been phenomenal. We recently had an issue with the AC, and a repair guy from Total Air Care came out to do the repair. He had to replace the control panel and he did a fantastic job. And the AC will be ready to rock and roll for the summertime. The guy had recommended putting a pound of Freon in the unit. So, it’s not cooling now but we’ve had cooler weather here in Louisiana over the past couple of weeks, so I’m gonna hold off on the Freon until we start getting some hot weather.
We also had a plumber come out, and he was from New Orleans, which was not a problem. He was a very nice guy as well. He said he would be here between 10:00 and 2:00, so there was an expected time there. And I told him to come at 8:30 in the morning the latest time, and he came at 8:30. Overall, having this warranty for our house has been phenomenal. Our house was built in 1967, and it has the original AC unit. With an older home that’s got some issues like this one does, the warranty is absolutely valuable.

My air handler on my AC unit would not shut off. It would stay on even when the actual AC turned on and off. I submitted a claim to AHS and it was a very simple process. I was also very happy with their response time. Their contractor was extremely nice. He assessed the problem and said that there was a part that he needed to order. Five days later, he called me back and said that he had the part. When he replaced the broken part, he figured out that the motor was bad also and so he replaced that as well. highly recommend AHS and their contractor. I'm very happy with my first experience with them.

Something was broken inside the door of the microwave and when we initially filed a claim to American Home Shield, the technician came out. He said that it shouldn’t be a problem to get it fixed and that he would report whatever he had to the insurance company. It shouldn’t take more than a week to finalize to fix the problem but then, about two weeks went by and we haven’t heard back from him. So, we contacted AHS and they called the technician. Over the phone, he said that he ordered the part and he would contact us as soon as the part arrives. Again, we didn’t hear back and then, we got a letter saying that it wouldn’t be covered by the insurance. So, we were very confused. We didn’t know what was happening because this was not the initial communication.
We contacted AHS and asked for an explanation. They sent out another technician who came out, took a look and he was very professional and helped us. It was the door that had to be replaced and he came out and fixed it. The problem was resolved and now, everything is okay. We are very happy with the outcome. AHS was very helpful. We filed the claim online, and it was simple and straightforward. I logged in to our account and I had no issues. Since it was our first time filing a claim, when we got the letter saying that the service would not be covered, it was a bit shocking and we didn’t know what to make out of it. However, we had a chance to have the problem resolved and we had a good experience. Hopefully, this was just an isolated event and it’s not something that happens all the time.

I called American Home Shield and they gave our name to two good companies. Both companies were able to come out the next day from our phone call on a Sunday. So, the service was amazing. They came out when they said they would and did better than when I call a contractor. We used a plumber for one drain issue and the plumber was excellent. Then, we also had High Tech Appliance, who contacted me. There was an issue with the oven door, where a spill had gotten in the glass, and the technician fixed that. At the time, we also noticed our clock on our range was missing and he ordered a new part. Then, he came out and installed it. On the second visit from High Tech, the tech called the day before and said he could be out that morning. He was right here at 8 o'clock. So, I couldn't be more pleased.

Recently, I phone Home Shield for a claim and the rep handled it well. The contractor came out in 24 hours and my tenant said he was great. Everything is working properly now too. However, I have two houses with this insurance and the prior call was awful. They elected an electrical company that made an appointment with my tenant (that was for my other house) and then they said that they could be there at one time, so she arranged to leave early from work.
Not even a few hours before the appointment, they said they couldn't make it because they were running late and scheduled the appointment for the following Sunday. That's not professional at all. She had plans but she had to stop doing it just to accommodate them because she needed help. Home Shield should find better contractors.

When our stove wasn't heating up, we filed a claim with American Home Shield online. It was very easy doing that. We had AT Appliances come out who were very unprofessional and were total scam artists. Their guy was horrible and not certified for anything. He said he adjusted my gas stove. It's an electric stove and you can't adjust the gas line. The guy thought that we're stupid. He put parts in that weren't even the right parts.
We then called American Home Shield and told them we wanted someone else sent out. And they sent out CAL-PRO. Their guy, Bruce, was awesome, and he's certified. He knew what he was talking about. He came to our house with a uniform on and he fixed the stove. The first service payment was carried over to the CAL-PRO guy so we didn't have to pay for it. My water heater stopped producing hot water and since it’s covered, I went online to file a claim for it. That was very quick. The response time was incredible. It went out on Friday and I had an appointment set up for Saturday morning with City Plumbing. That was absolutely excellent customer service on the part of American Home Shield. However, the gentleman who came out from City Plumbing took one look at my Whirlpool water heater and told me that he couldn't touch it. All Whirlpool water heaters were under recall. I said okay and asked him what I had to do. He told me that he could give me the number or that he could make a call. Since I paid the $75 fee, I thought he could at least make a phone call for me.
He spent about 40 minutes on the phone and it turned out that my heater wasn’t one of the models under recall. After that, he proceeded to do what I thought would fix it. He had an issue that there was a drain pan underneath. But I told him I didn’t place it there, that I needed some water and to please do what he needed to do to get to it. He apparently fixed it and had it running, and everything was fine. But it lasted less than 24 hours. Specifically, one sink-full of dishes and one shower – that was as much hot water we had. The indicator light was flashing the same problem signal that it had previously, that the burner grate needed to be cleaned.
So I called American Home Shield back on Sunday but I told them that I was not paying another $75 fee to have somebody come out and they said that was fine. The staff was fantastic. They were very kind on the phone and I’ve been very pleased with American Home Shield. But I have two kids and we had to have showers for school. I had to reach out to City Plumbing at 8:30 on Monday morning and they had somebody able to come out between 10:00 and noon that day.
The one who came out that time was a different gentleman and he was more customer-friendly. He cleaned the burner grate and resolved the issue. The water heater has been working since Monday. But I have an appointment for them to return on Tuesday to continue to help diagnose and solve the problem. Apparently, there is something else that they need to figure out. He said that the heater might stop operating again. But so far, everything is working okay and he also showed me a workaround that I can do until they can come back.

We've had American Home Shield for at least 20 years now and it's remarkable that we've only had one bad experience with a man. Other than that, all contractors have all been very good and prompt. They have up to 48 hours to contact us and they usually do that within the first 24, so that’s very good. And if there’s going to be a delay because of a part, then they’re really straightforward about that, because that’s usually out of their control. Aeon Blue Pool and Spa was sent out for our pool pump that was leaking and they got here really quick. They were very professional and they repaired it.
We have American Home Shield not only on our primary home but also on our rentals, and we’re very pleased with them. I generally call in since I feel better if I talk to somebody and they’ve always been very helpful. If I request a company that we’ve had good service with before, they honor that if that company’s still signed up with them. So, I’m highly impressed. We’re not just stuck with whoever they happen to send and that really makes me feel good ‘cause it helps to build a relationship with the service people that come out. When we had to replace a washer, American Home Shield was very helpful in that. They’re consumer-oriented which is great. I want them to keep up the good work and just keep doing what they’re doing. My experience with American Home Shield was not that great. I called about a plumbing issue late last week. The drain on the bathtub basically broke and I needed it replaced. The drain where the stuff pops up on the sink also broke. But American Home Shield's website and phone system don’t have a way to detail it like that. If it is a plumbing issue, there are only eight or 10 options. I looked at the drain category and went with as close as I could get. American Home Shield called my property manager and set up an appointment. Then the plumber showed up but he said that he was just there to look at the drain. He said that if I wanted the issue fixed, it was gonna cost a whole lot more and that it was not gonna be through the warranty.
American Home Shield also charged me a fee every time that somebody was sent out even though nothing was really done. Then with whatever trade goes out, it seems like there is not very good communication between whoever is actually assigned to get the job done – between the owner and the plumber or the owner and the carpenter. The last two contractors were not as flexible for scheduling either. I have a rental and I use the warranty for the tenants to make sure that things are taken care of right away. But they work, go to school and have different scheduling, and the contractors were not as flexible to make those calls, whether it would be after five or on a Saturday.
American Home Shield also keeps sending my tenant authorization charge for these things. But he’s not the owner. He’s just a tenant. It’s not his money. He shouldn’t be approving that. I just have to rectify a few issues. But American Home Shield has been good to me. It is nothing that they have lacked in their service or in their timing. It has to do with their third party vendors.

American Home Shield was Johnny-on-the-spot. I submitted my claim online and they sent out a tech the next day. They said they wouldn’t replace the heater until it actually stops working. So, it was just a matter of time before it quits, and I do not look forward to being without hot water having to go through that process again. Even the plumber called and said it was as matter of time. I understand AHS' policy. I don’t like it because the heater is gonna go out and it is old. If I have to go without hot water, and it happens to make a mess in the house, I will not be happy. The heater is working right now, but it's not working well. So far, so good.

I made two different claims, the first for the washer and the second was for the refrigerator. I was at work, and my wife called and told me that she was washing and then all of a sudden, the washer stopped. I called American Home Shield then and I was lucky the tech guy was in the area, so he was able to do it the same day. However, the guy didn’t have the order on his paper, so he refused to touch the refrigerator. I called back and American Home Shield made him come back the following day. On one occasion though, I was billed twice and it took a long time for AHS to refund my $100. The system is not great, and that’s why I had to wait so long before I could get my money. But I didn’t take it as a big deal. Most of the problem is not their fault - it’s the people coming. I recommend them overall.

I had two pipe leaks and I was a little frustrated because the original selected plumber didn't have availability sooner. The tech wasn't available for several days, which meant that my tenants had to shower in a different bathroom, which also got back to us in the process. American Home Shield wouldn't let me try a different provider, and it would've been nice if I could have called a different provider to see if somebody was available sooner. Nonetheless, the plumber that came was very knowledgeable and efficient. It was hard assessing one of the leaks, so I appreciated his persistence. Plus it didn't take even an hour for him to get everything done. I have to do a little bit of caulking myself, but I don't mind. I've been an American Home Shield customer for a long time and I really like them.

I've been a member of American Home Shield for four years and up until the last eight months, I've been very satisfied with them. However, I have been very disappointed in them, their performance and the service that I've received recently. I've had a total of six different calls come out on my refrigerator. The repairman came out and tried this part, then tried that part. He said that all this time, he knew exactly what part the refrigerator needed, but AHS would not approve the purchase of those parts.
I've had to take off of work five times, sit at home for four hours waiting for the serviceman to come after throwing away two refrigerators of groceries because the refrigerator stopped working and the food went bad. Recently, I told them that I cannot take off of work anymore and the last two visits were after 5 PM. And I am not sure that my issue has been resolved even at this point. I just noticed last night that the inside panel of my refrigerator was so hot that it was like it would burn the skin off your hand. I've got to call those guys to come back up again and this is after over six months of visits. I am currently researching another warranty company because I am not gonna go through this again.
I just sent an email.

I first called them over 3 weeks ago to get my refrigerator repaired or replaced. We moved into this home less than a year ago and the appliance was left from prior owner. Took a week to even get anyone out to diagnose it. As I expected-compressor was bad and the coolant had all leaked out. He quoted over 1000 to fix it. 2 weeks (and several phone calls to AHS later), the claim had still not been sent to the authorization department. Reportedly, the technician had not submitted the reports-but they had spoken with them verbally and got the diagnosis. AHS also made no effort to call the technician until I called them. Then they get the reports. And then AHS delays it further-wanting the technician to call them back about whether the part is under warranty through LG. Of course it's not, since I was not the original purchaser.
Finally, they decide it should be fixed. But the technician refuses to work with AHS any longer and will not fix the fridge. Can't say I blame him. So now, the process has to start all over with a new repair company. And instead of just paying me the value of the fridge (the appropriate and financially sensible thing to do) based on the diagnosis already provided, I now continue to go without a fridge for whoever knows how long while another company gets to ** around with AHS. And despite multiple calls and requests to speak to managers, I was never allowed to speak to anyone with any kind of authority. Constantly just got the "that's just what has to happen" line. Our home warranty was paid for by the home sellers as part of our negotiations. I will not be renewing the plan with this garbage company when it expires.
Good afternoon Jacob,
Your concerns and frustration are understood regarding the delay in service to have the refrigerator replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years and now I'm ready to cancel. I submitted a request for furnace not working on 3/2/2019 and a tech was scheduled to come out on 3/4. This was during a stretch of some very cold weather days. 20 degree weather. The tech had to order a part and came back on 3/6 to install. The furnace worked for maybe 30 mins. I called the company back right away but they didn't get another tech out until 3/7.
He came back, did some cable reinforcement and heat came on again and he left. He stayed on for 20 mins and stopped again. I called the company and they were going to send out a senior tech but not until the next day. Now it's 3/8, the senior tech is only 30 years old comes and checks the voltage and reinforced cables again and heat is on. Again, tech leaves, and heat is on but kicks off again.
I called AHS and was put on hold 3 different times for 15-20 minutes only for the call to disconnect. After calling a 4th time on 3/9, and being asked if I could hold I said no! And explained the issue and asked them to send another company out. The rep that I spoke with Paulyn assured me that they would follow up with Air Max to get a diagnosis and would call me back but to give them until 3/12. I have a reference number for that conversation which begins with ** but I have yet to get a callback and it's now 3/25 and I still don't have a properly working furnace. After seeing all the negative comments on their social media sites I think it's time to cancel my contract.
Good morning T Cross,
Your patronage of over 20 years is greatly appreciated. I would be lad to speak with you and assist with a resolution to repair the furnace.

If I could rate AHS a zero, I would. I was told when signing up we could use a contractor of our choosing, now when we need our furnace fixed/replaced we are told we can't use one we'd like to use. We were not happy being lied to, no one has apologized for the misinformation. We understand that AHS has preferred contractors but the contractor we’d like to use is a preferred contractor for them; just not the “system generated one”. We've been waiting 3 days to hear from their contractor, called the contractor ourselves multiple times as well with no response.
The AHS call center reps have no problem management skills, I've talked to two so far. I asked to speak to a manager, was put on hold for 10 minutes, the rep came back on the line and said he would transfer me. Sat on hold for another 10 minutes then finally hung up. The manager called back, continued to refuse to do anything even after explaining what I was told when we signed up with them AND expressed my concerns for the very poor reviews for the contractor they wanted to send out.
She placed me on hold for another 20 minutes (not exaggerating), came back on the line with no solution what-so-ever AND told me that the contract would not be out until the next day. So we will have gone 4 days without a furnace in 35 degree weather in Central IL. When I mentioned this to the manager, she basically told me it was my fault for starting the claim/service request online; even though I had called minutes after submitting the online request.
Long story short: 1) the call reps and management have no problem solving skills, 2) there is no attempt or desire to assist an upset customer 3) there is no empathy 4) they do not own up to their call rep’s mistakes or even mention reviewing a call for future coaching/training opportunities 5) they blame the customer and take no responsibility for their faults and 6) they could not care less about the well-being of you as their customer, your family or the protection of your home.

We had circuit breakers that were tripping. Every time we'd turn on a couple of lights in a room, the breakers would go, “Boot.” Submitting a claim with AHS was a piece of cake. I got online and their website has a drop down menu for the different types of problems where I clicked on circuit breakers. I did that on Saturday and on Monday morning, bright and early, SJDI Electric called me and said they’d be there on Tuesday between 10:00 and 1:30. Then, lo and behold, they reached back to me again and sent me a picture of the guy who was gonna come. His name was Fy so that when we greeted him at the door we’d know exactly who he was ‘cause we had picture of him. So, that was so great. After that, he came out, fixed the problem, explained everything he did to us, and went on his merry way. And we were very happy.
We've been with AHS since July and we've had a couple of issues. They’ve been very responsive any time we've had an issue and the price is reasonable. We pay a service call fee and no matter what it takes to fix a problem, that’s all we pay. So, AHS has been a great service and we love the service. They’ve been very reliable, too. Aside from that, somebody had been out in a very timely manner for our claims. Plus, the ones who came out were professional and fixed the problem each time.

I’ve had American Home Shield for years and everybody has been very nice and they’ve taken care of the problem. I usually submit claims online and it's not a problem especially if somebody is my age. I’m almost 80 so if I can do it, anybody can do it. I get a call fairly soon saying that they are such and such and that they wanna come out and fix our unit.
Here’s the thing that’s kinda frustrating. When our dishwasher stopped working, the gentleman told us to just unplug it and wait 10 minutes, and it should start up again. So we waited 10 minutes and it started up again, and that was $75. But shortly thereafter, the same thing happened again except this time, it wouldn’t work when we unplugged it. He should’ve checked further because that only lasted a few days. He just came in and left. That was kind of throwing up the $75. But other than that, everybody who has ever come here has done very nicely. Everybody has been very nice and even been complimentary on the things in our house.
A new man came out for the dishwasher and I told him what the other technician had done but he wasn’t really interested in what happened before. He checked it out and said that in a few minutes, the light would come on again saying there was an error. We waited a few minutes and it came on then he found an item in the dishwasher that was clogged up. He cleaned that and fixed it, and it’s working fine now. He also told me to call if there’s any problem but I think that has solved the issue.

The lighthouse I got had little plumbing problems. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it over the phone. The plumber came over fast and told me how to fix it, and it was easy to do that. The air conditioner problem that I had with both my house in Georgia and here was challenging, though. That was a five-month ordeal and it was painful. We need more people who can fix things but our country is made up of a lot of managers, insurances and a lot of oversights which causes problems when you actually need guys to fix things.
The guy went out to my house in Georgia and diagnosed the problem immediately but American Home Shield didn't work with him. So then, they scheduled some company outta Jacksonville and it took the guy a week or two to get out there and he misdiagnosed the problem. He put sealant in the AC. He didn't listen to what he was told so that company is not a good one. Then, there was still a problem, so then the guy came back out again and same thing. Finally, after some yelling and unpleasant conversations with American Home Shield, they finally got a guy out there who fixed it.
When I looked at the actual investment, I was given 550 bucks a month on that Georgia house. That was the first time I ever had a problem and it took them that long to fix it. I’d be better off with no insurance so, I canceled them. My lighthouse is a little different because I live here but I’ll never use AHS again for another rental property. Overall, American Home Shield is good at fixing simple things but if it’s anything complicated, they’re not very good.

I was glad that American Home Shield had somebody else to refer. It took them about an hour to come up with the next referral but that was quick enough. Quality Plumbing was a good referral. The next day after talking to them, their plumber Greg came out and took care of everything. I really appreciated that because going out without hot water is not too easy. And Greg was a very nice guy, professional and cheerful. I was very happy with him. I was impressed and would highly recommend him.
He worked with the igniters for my tank-less water heater and got them working somehow though he said that they were weak. He got it working long enough, ordered the part and replaced the igniters. So, it's working fine now. That time, I also had other leaks and problems. There was a clog in one toilet and he fixed that in a couple of minutes. It turned out it was a toothbrush. I had a shower that would run water all the time, and he fixed that. I had a sink in one of the bathrooms that was running slow and he snaked that out, cleaned that up and fixed that. We also had a couple of faucets in the kitchen and one bathroom that leaked all around it whenever turned on and off, and he got those fixed up as well. It turned out there was a seal that goes on it too which he replaced. Greg did a really good job.

We've been with American Home Shield for two years now and the customer service that we've received from the company has been outstanding. The technicians that we've dealt with came across as very good. There was one tech, Dennis, that fixed the bathroom and he was extremely good. He knew his job really well. He said that he has been doing it for a number of years and it showed.
But whether we are satisfied with our decision to go with AHS is still up for grabs because of our issue with the ice maker. The tech who repaired it was in and out of here so quickly. It looked like he put some kind of plug in there and the ice maker was good for at least two months, but on the third month it went bad on us again and it doesn’t make ice anymore. But after three months, our warranty with AHS also expired. So, it turns me off right now that the ice maker went out as soon as the warranty expired. So, I bought an ice maker and we went back to the old days when we used the ice tray. In the first two years of our having AHS, I would have rated them very high. But the ice maker issue killed that and put it right in the graveyard. Although we renewed our contract with AHS, that ice maker screws the whole thing out of tune for me and I've blamed myself to some degree since I should have called AFC back and my wife never did that either.

The contractor sent out by American Home Shield for a recent electrical issue was amazing, as well as every contractor that we've had that has had to come out for service. There was a wiring issue with the ceiling fan in the bedroom. It was over wear and tear and the fan came loose. There is a bracket or a brace that the ceiling fan mounts into up in the ceiling and it had broken, so the fan dropped a little and created some sparks. We shut the power off and called American Home Shield. When the contractor came out, he said that the bracket had been broken, but the fan was still good.
It is an expensive fan and we didn’t have to replace it. He made repairs to the wiring and mounted the fan back up good and tight and checked it out. He was very polite and he explained everything really well. Having the policy with American Home Shield is worth it especially if your house is older than 10 years because appliances go bad. Unless you are a journeyman electrician, you will spend thousands of dollars. American Home Shield saves us money.

I originally gave AHS 1 star because of the quality of the vendor they sent me and their lack of concern. That electrician wanted to fix the symptom instead of solve the problem (a problem three other electricians from three other electrical companies confirmed). I had a really bad experience with the AHS reps, who offered zero assistance when I told them I was concerned my electrical panel was going to be repaired improperly. I sent AHS a message through Facebook because they had no email listed on their website, and their social media department started working right away to resolve the issue. The social media team was great! My electrical panel is getting the repairs it needs, and I'm very pleased with how everything worked out. I wish the process wasn't so stressful, but that team was amazing, truly provided great customer service.

AHS isn't interested in actually fixing the problem. They did cheap patch jobs on my old AC, which consequently kept breaking down before they finally replaced it. That was years of stress and being without AC in the desert multiple times in the summer multiple years in a row. Now they want to do a patch job on my main electrical panel. Their customer service was so unhelpful and let me know that from a financial standpoint, it just made sense to go the cheap route even if the problem wasn't actually fixed. Now I have the money to take care of this kind of thing myself, and I want it done properly, so I'll be cancelling my policy.
Good afternoon Nicole,

We couldn’t get the AC to turn on at all and the furnace wouldn’t stop running. It was midnight by the time we figured that out and we had to get the claim in with American Home Shield. We can’t get on the website on our phones, so we had to get on on an actual computer. The site doesn't have very good mobile capability or it's not very user friendly. I wish we could just submit a claim on the phone, but other than that, it’s fine. Then, I was going to be gone half of the day on the next day and we got a text message that said Rescue Heating & Air would contact us to set up the appointment.
The next morning, we got a text saying that Rescue Heating & Air would be at our house at some point between 3:00 and 5:00. I didn't like that as the contractor never actually called to set up the appointment. I called them and they called me back and said that the technician would call me first to make sure I was home. But I didn’t care for that and I would much prefer to have something set up that said they would be here until afternoon as well as make sure that they were coming. Nonetheless, the technician was fantastic and knew exactly what he was doing. He took the thermostat off and knew what the problem was immediately. He explained how to fix it or what I could do to easily fix it. He was in and out within 30 minutes and everything has been working properly since the repair. We bought our house in December, so we’ve been with American Home Shield since December. And as of right now, we’re probably planning on renewing with them.

My tenant had an electrical issue and they called it in. I saw that the job was closed and I haven't heard any feedback from anybody stating that there was still a problem. So, I’m gonna go on the basic assumption that everything got resolved. When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, the tenant calls the property management company and then, the property management company will notify me to submit a claim or trigger up a job. American Home Shield started protecting my homes April 30th of last year. I’ve only had two things that I have run through AHS, a rekey and then this most recent thing with the electrical issue. From a dollar’s perspective, I’m probably behind, but it’s reassuring knowing the warranty is in place. Overall, the experience with AHS has been good.

When the dryer needed to be fixed, I phoned American Home Shield and the claims process was very easy this time around. The contractor, Bryan, did a terrific job. He was a very nice young man who was professional and right to the point. Since the repair, I used the dryer once and it's fine. Last time, the claims process was absolutely terrible. It took forever and I still haven't gotten reimbursed for my microwave that I had purchased. I'm concerned about this reimbursement and I still need it. Their phones are always busy and it's so hard to get ahold of those people. I always give people a couple of chances and if I had the same experience the first time this last time, I wouldn't be with AHS anymore. There is hope now.

I've had American Home Shield for over a year and I've renewed it already. Air Creation Heating & Cooling came out for routine maintenance, though it really didn't do much. I thought it should've been covered under the $75. The tech pointed out a couple of things and said if I needed to make a separate appointment, I'd have to do that. Other than that, he seemed to know what he was talking about. There was another time when a part had to be changed in the clothes dryer, and the only difficulty was that the contractor didn't have the part available. It took a little while to get the part but we made it.

Our kitchen sink kept backing up. Even when I would run the garbage disposal unit, nothing would go down. The garbage would go down at a certain line and wouldn’t go past the unit. I haven't even cooked any meals in the house yet, so I knew that was an existing condition. So, I called the warranty service, American Home Shield. I filed the claim with them online and that was extremely simple. The contractor, D & B Plumbing, came out the following morning to take a picture to submit to AHS. Then three days later, I got a phone call from the contractor saying that they could go ahead and have someone come out the following work day. The tech who came was great and super personable. He showed me some additional things in my plumbing line where my hot water heaters are connected, how to turn off the whole home water system, and a lot of information that I needed to know as a homeowner.

The toilets were gurgling when I'd take a shower. I called up American Home Shield and they said $75 would be my co-pay. They went ahead and put it on the card and got a hold of the tech guy. Within a short period of time, somebody sent me an email with the time he'd be coming. He was supposed to come that day, but he called and said that he had an emergency, so he asked if he could come the next morning. He got here that next morning like he said he would and took care of everything. He got on the roof, looked down the pipe, rodded it out and it worked out quite nicely.

American Home Shield was part of the package for the purchase of the home. And so, we extended it after we’d had some initial interaction. I submit claims online because it is quicker. Westside Air Conditioning recently came out for our AC unit. I got a phone call that the contractor had some available time earlier than our initial appointment, and he came several hours early. In the initial set-up, the lady was very professional, and so was the gentleman who actually came out. He was more than timely, and he explained everything and didn’t make us feel stupid when we asked questions. They completed the claim on the same day as when I submitted it. Everything has been fine after the repair.

We bought our house last year and the previous homeowners offered to buy us a year's warranty. American Home Shield is good to have around if you're not handy. I am capable of doing most things, but plumbing is not my forte, so when our toilets would occasionally back up and wouldn’t fully flush, it was nice to be able to call and get someone out quickly to take care of everything. It was super easy to submit the claim. I applied online and they called or emailed me later that day. They got back to me really quick, and then Metro Heating & Cooling reached out and said that they could have someone out the next day.
It took less than three days between submitting the claim and getting someone out there and it was great. Their thought process was that it would be too cost-prohibitive to go through the toilets and figure out what was causing the issue, so we ended up replacing the toilet and it was super fast. They were back within a few days with new toilets and the contractor replaced them within a couple of hours, and we were good to go.

I’ve been dealing with the same issue with my AC for the past two years. Different technicians go out but they just put a band-aid patch on the issue and it doesn’t do anything to fix it. I gotta keep calling American Home Shield back and pay another $100 for another service call. The techs said it was low on Freon, so they added some. Then, they said it was too much, so they took some Freon out. They said many different things, but it never got fixed. Now, it’s broken again and the technician went out and he said it was the coils and that it needed Freon. I paid $400 for Freon plus the $100 service charge. It was around five times that they came out within the two years and they were $100 each. That was 500 plus the 500, so it is $1000 and I am not too happy with that. Hopefully, the issue is fixed.
For my primary residence, it has been good when they came out and fixed the issue until the last one that my washer went out and the techs came out and they wanted to give me something else that I dislike. They said, “You can have cash and then you can go out and buy something else,” so I bought something else at Costco. I bought a pair of washer and dryer, but instead of giving me $950, they gave me $370. I called them back to see what happened and they said, “Oh, I’m sorry. We made a mistake.” They were supposed to send me another $500 since last week and a half, but I still haven’t received it yet.
The contractors for the AC at the condo were really bad. Nobody wanted to fix it. But the ones that came out to my primary residence, sometimes for my washer and sometimes for my AC, have been good. I just wish they could come out and fix it the first time and won’t be talking around to people and spending money like crazy without even getting it fixed. I am dissatisfied with my experience.
Sergio,
I am saddened to hear that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

Several years ago, we had a problem when we went for months trying to get our cooktop replaced or fixed through American Home Shield. That was when they were using Sears and the repair people sent from there were completely clueless about the GE cooktop and they were ordering wrong parts. After going from September to February, American Home Shield finally told us they couldn't get the parts. Instead, they had a blower motor in the whole country cooktop that would fit the underneath parts because it was a downdraft. So, they sent it out. Gold Star came and installed it.
More recently we had another experience with Gold Star Services for a dishwasher that wasn't washing dishes appropriately and a Whirlpool Cabrio top-loading high-efficiency washer with a glass top that kept exploding off. The normal appliance repair guy who comes to our house is extremely knowledgeable. However, the other two guys who came didn't seem to be as knowledgeable. They admitted that one of them was in training and that the normal guy had gone on vacation for a long weekend. Still, it was no problem and they worked with us. For the washing machine, the lid that was coming off was the third lid already and I was surprised that AHS was okay with replacing it again. It was eventually fixed. For the dishwasher, they were unable to get parts and the replaced it altogether. So, we've recommended AHS to our children as well as our neighbors.

I normally file claims with American Home Shield on the phone. I like the flexibility, although I have a concern about it when I filed a claim for my dishwasher. I was offered for the person to come in, but the dates were not flexible and I couldn't change that according to my schedule. The people suggested that I take off from work or have a neighbor come to my house to be there for them to do the installation or the repair.
The dishwasher wasn’t draining and drying. I had one guy come out but he came out there twice. First, he said it was the motor, then he came back and fixed another part. I didn’t use the dishwasher or followed up on using the dishwasher for about a month, but when I used it again, the same problem was occurring, it was not draining and not drying. When I called back, the company came back and said that the motor was gone again, although it had not been used one time completely. Another company, Tommy D Appliance Repair, came out and they were great. They were very thorough and very informative with me, so I will recommend that company again. The tech identified the same problem and said that it was not fixable at that point. I got a replacement dishwasher and it was comparable to what we had in the past.

I would normally call in my claims to American Home Shield. I've never had a problem talking to their person. But when I had issues with my furnace, I did it online as their phone lines were busy and it said to use their online system. That was very easy to do. I got a text message within a few minutes of my claim submission saying who was assigned to my case. I did my claim at 8:00 pm and their contractor called me at 6:30 the next morning.
I got very knowledgeable and friendly technicians. We had no problems with any of them. This was the fifth time our furnace was fixed. This time, the whole job took over three days. Initially, somebody came out and replaced some kind of motor. But it still wasn't working. We noticed that it would take like 45 minutes for the furnace to turn on. Somebody had to come out and look at it again. It took about two and a half hours trying to figure out what was wrong with the furnace. They said there was a bunch of stuff with the furnace. They called American Home Shield and recommended that they replace it. I got a new furnace and the installation yesterday was from 9:30 am to about 12:30.
We're pleased we have American Home Shield. Their service is good and we're gonna continue to subscribe to it. They're usually very responsive which is nice. The oven part of my stove wasn’t heating up. I would press to heat it up and wait 45 minutes, and it would only go to 170. So, I would have to press "broil" in order to even get it up to 350. I filed a claim with American Home Shield for that appliance issue. Normally, I do that over the phone because we wanna make sure that whatever the issue is, it’s covered before we pay the $100.
The contractor, Appliance Surgeons, came out came out quickly two days after to do the repair. They didn’t have the part so they had to order it and that’s understandable. But once the part came in, they came right out and fixed it, so it was good service. What was wrong was that the bottom heating element was totally burnt out and only the top one that did the broil was working, so they replaced the bottom heating element. My parents are purchasing the house, so they’ll fix anything that’s wrong with it. That’s the only reason why I cancelled my AHS warranty, but I would still have it. AHS has been great and I loved my experience with them. Every single time that I’ve had a problem, the contractors that AHS sent out have been great.

Our water heater was not making hot water, and it was the fourth time that that's happened since we moved into the house. I called American Home Shield, and it was the third time and they finally sent Sirius out. They were able to correct the issue and they provided us with hot water as had been done previously, but it wasn’t a part that was covered. It was like a shutoff that was optional. It's kinda aftermarket, so they just unplugged it for us and got the water working. So, that was fine and we can make do with that and certainly understand there are things they do and don’t cover. We haven't had any issues with that since.
I also had another issue which wasn’t a major deal breaker, by any means, but it was something that while I had a plumbing company out, I wanted them to look at. I've had water backing up within the kitchen sink from one basin to the other. And so when Sirius came out, they snaked part of the line, but they didn’t do it properly and I don’t know if American Home Shield knows this, but it caused a major backup in our house and it was a nightmare. We had water that was backing up in the sinks and from the washing machine. And so, there was a major clog in the line that luckily, Sirius came out and corrected. They didn’t charge us a second service charge. So, they made it all fine, but it was a really unfortunate event because I had a lot going on, and I was able to self mitigate like I had to go get fans.
We feel confident after being with American Home Shield for a year. When the plumbers came out and snaked the line fully, they said all the plumbing looked really good. So, those were the big ticket issues that we would have maintained it for anyway, and we feel comfortable with that. We've been happy, overall. In the beginning, when we had the water heater issue, there was a little bit of a delay in them getting somebody out to us, but the warranty really served its purpose over the course of the year.

Their plumber came out, looked and said would call AHS to review, then said we needed all this expansion tank and other modifications and the heater. Another plumber reviewed revealed that they were lying to get high charges from us about $1100-$1200. We argued the point with them and they said we could get it fix and they would send us a check. The check turned out being $479.
We ended up paying approximately $750 to get it done on Sat, 3/9/19, hardwood floors destroyed and all. What have we paid AHS for in the last 2-3 years, you cannot get them to do anything, but ask for more, astronomical rates when they come back out? They have received 2-3 times in premiums and they still trying to get more money from customers? And they have the nerve to go up on our premiums without notifying us of the change on our credit card. They also debited our card for two deductible fees for coming out to the house when they didn't even do anything to get our water heater fixed.
We out of money for no service--but for the plumber to look and say what we needed and fixed nothing!!! Please don't use this company, you better off calling a local plumber and paying them to fix whatever AHS suppose to be covering in your premium payments and deductibles, because they are not going to fix anything, and you will be out of money for just calling them!! They did the same thing with my ceiling fan about 1 year ago-- they tried to get $400-$500 from us to fix it! They scammers!!!

I had a claim for an AC repair before when it had been raining really bad and the lady at the shop, wherever it was, called me two times a day with weather updates saying that she hoped that the techs would be able to get here. She also told me that if not, they'd go out first thing the next morning.

I've only had the service of American Home Shield for a couple of times and I try not to unless the problem is something that I can’t handle myself. I was very pleased with the service that I got from them. But originally, they told me that the issue wasn't covered. So, I called the plumbing service directly, then they called AHS and found out that it was covered. I’m very grateful for that. So, my experience was better with the plumbing company and I highly recommend this company. They’ve been out here a couple of times. They have always been very professional and caring, and they had the problem solved immediately. As for American Home Shield’s customer service, it was originally not so great but then they stepped up and got everything taken care of.

American Home Shield was part of the purchase of the home and I have been with them for less than a year. I usually go online under the account and submit a request for service with American Home Shield. There is a service charge, then they have their selected contractors and within a couple of days, somebody comes out. The process is really easy. I had a claim with American Home Shield recently for an HVAC repair and Comfort First Heating and Cooling came out. The techs were professional and knowledgeable and they were able to troubleshoot the issues and make recommendations for repair, then they got everything taken care of. They got it fixed on the same day. I am happy with American Home Shield. I’ve only had used them once, but it is nice having the security and peace of mind that I can get stuff fixed.

I have a water leak somewhere on my grounds. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The plumber came out the day after. He was excellent, very incisive and covered all bases. He also crawled underneath my pair beam just to make sure that I didn't have any leaks under. The only leak that he found was on the outside spigot. He said it's so small, that for him to blow all the air and everything in there would make it worse. It's one thing he found that he could see unless I want to dig up my front yard and start looking that way. I have a u-shape driveway so that means they will have to break that up and do all that.
The nozzles outside are not in the home, so those are not covered. It was a waste of a $100 for someone to come out and tell me that I have a leak but it's not covered. It's an additional $500 to get it done. My home was built in 1965 and it has been remodeled. Some of the plumbing has not been redone. The problem is an older nozzle and the water hose is connected to the faucet that's leaking. But in order for them to make it covered, they're gonna have to reset it into the brick wall. Nevertheless, I would recommend American Home Shield to others.

We're disappointed with American Home Shield's service. The cooktop on our range has been dragged out longer than we anticipated. This is going on a little bit on the third week now. It's supposed to be installed this Friday which will be the week four. I've had to constantly follow up with them, try to get information on it, and there's no communication on their part. The contractors came out and tried to repair it first. We have an old cooktop where they replaced all those with new ones and they didn’t work. They didn’t test them before they left. They came back out and said they can't repair it and that they're gonna have to replace it. It went on for two weeks, not knowing if they had ordered the replacement or if they were gonna try to repair it again.
So finally, I called them and asked what was going on. They said they're gonna order me a new one. I asked how long that is gonna take and they said they will have to email me an approval. That took another four days to get in progress. And so then, I called back and asked where were we a few days later. Then they said my order should be here in 10 days. It has just been one delay after the other. And it has been my response having to initiate, trying to get answers on what's going on. Even so, the general person who came out and did the work was very efficient.
David,
I hate to hear that you were not satisfied with the service received with AHS. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

I used them once when I first moved in 5 months ago. It was for the electric stove. A wire had been disconnected and so they sent a contractor out who fixed it. In a recent experience, Bradley Appliance had to replace a fan in a refrigerator and they were very professional and knowledgeable. The leaking was all plugged up and they did an excellent job. Calling American Home Shield on the phone to submit claims is straightforward. When our water heater was not working adequately, they sent a very nice gentleman. He was top notch and talked me through the process of the work he did. He was professional, efficient and knew exactly what he was doing. He knew what to look for and diagnosed the problem in less than 15 minutes. He then called AHS to let them know that the issue was a thermostat that had gone bad. He then fixed it and moved on. American Home Shield is very responsive and we've had really good luck with them. I usually do the online version of the request service and they immediately called and emailed about the company that would get in touch with me. We'd get a call right back quickly and somebody comes out the next day. The first time we had a plumbing issue though, the contractors that they've sent out were sketchy. We had to call them back again not long later because we had the same problem but they never showed up. I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on and they got one of their other contractors to come out very quickly. They handled it very professionally. Recently, AHS sent out Advanced Heating and Air for the yearly maintenance of my air conditioner and the man was very nice. He did everything he was supposed to and he answered all of my questions. I have been a American Home Shield customer for two years. I recently had a slab leak and American Home shield was prompt in arranging a plumber to come out and evaluate the situation, however; their technician had to come out twice to verify what I already knew was a slab leak. Their technician recommended a re-route of the plumbing and American Home shield declined to cover any portion of the cost. Additionally, the slab leak also led to the discovery that the gate valve for the water shutoff to the house was not closing the valve properly and the main water line had to be shut off. Gate valves are covered, and I had to hire another plumber to come out and complete the repairs because the technician never followed up with me to let me know what American Home shield intended to do.
I also discovered a toilet bolt was broken and needed to be replaced which usually means the toilet will have to be re-seated with a new wax ring. The valve and toilet reset are covered, but American Home shield wanted me to submit another request which means another 125.00. This is horrible service. The plumber I selected to complete the re-route had the best reviews in Orange County compared to no reviews from their choice of plumbing experts. Horrible service and it made no sense to generate another call since I had a plumber already at work on the re-route and the plumber evaluated the situation. I'm seriously thinking of trying another home warranty company like Home Select.

Horrible service, the staff attempts to diagnose problems over the phone rather than sending a technician to the property. I called to request service for a garage door and I was told the problem was with the "clicker" and was told that the it was not covered. I called a repair company and they informed me that the Springs were broken and needed to be replaced. The cost for that was $275.00 which we paid to get the work done.
Our Warranty plan is the Shield Plus Plan which costs $655.00 per year with a service call fee of $75.00 per call for covered items with no additional fee for repair or replacement . We checked our contract and the Shield Plus Plan does cover the Garage Door Springs. So we paid $275.00 for a repair that would have cost us only $75.00. This is a classic example of consumer exploitation and breach of contract and the garage door is covered - Awful communication, utter lack of listening skills on the part of the telephone staff. They refuse to escalate the calls to supervisors even after repeated requests.
This company is very deceptive, the new service calls are routed to a US call center and the service request calls are routed to the Philippines and there is a noticeable difference in the communication skills, and speed of comprehension on the part of the call takers. Very frustrating. The following is the language in the contract "4. GARAGE DOOR OPENERS. COVERED ITEMS: Wiring – Motor – Switches – Receiver unit – Rail/Trolley assembly – Hinges – Springs – Remote transmitters."

Since I was calling on a Friday, I was told there may be a delay because of the weekend and depending on what was going on. But everybody responded very quickly. The technician came right away because it was a really hot time in Florida. He said that he was gonna be coming over at a certain time and he'd give me a heads up that he was coming. He came at the set time. We're in a gated community so a notification had to made in advance to let the technician in the gate.

My lights were dimming and then they would come on bright. At one point in time, they were flashy. When I turn on any appliance especially any appliance as little as a toaster or the washing machine, it would dim and then come back on bright or it would flash. Filing a claim with American Home Shield for the issue was very easy. They have various entry points. I can use the mobile app or online or I can talk to a live person. I prefer to talk to a live person but for this specific call with the lights, I went online because I was not sure whether the electrical work that was required for my home was covered. I needed a lot more definition of what was covered in that electrical system.
The AHS intake person was very nice. She answered and in the areas where she could not respond, she had me hold very briefly and talked to a manager or some other SME’s. Then, she came back to me with clear, articulate results. She asked me questions to make sure that she understood my problem and she came up with the best solution. She then sent Alejo Electric. She wanted to be specific as to the expertise of the technician she wanted to send me and she sent me a very competent tech.
Alejo called and they gave me a window of when the tech would be arriving. They kept calling to slim the window down to the very point when the tech was even five minutes away. He was here on time, introduced himself and showed me his ID. He came in and we talked about the issue. Then, he went to the power box, worked on it, did some testing, tested all the lines and came back with a resolution. I had the electric company itself earlier come in and it said that the issue was with our breaker box, so the Alejo tech checked the breaker box. He told us that the issue was not from our breaker box.
He went in there and updated all the fuses and made sure everything was okay. We checked and still the problem was not with us, so he tested the electric company’s line and he found out that that was where the issue was. He explained it to us and then he put a notation on the invoice explaining what the issue was. The tech believed that the electric company will have to break the side wall to go to the main light to fix the issue.
We then called the electric company and the electric company came in for a second time and they decided to check the breaker box. We brought the invoice with the explanation out to them. The Alejo guy had done such a great job that the electric company followed his explanation. The electric company tech tested it and he came up with the same result and then he proceeded to tell also that they will have to break the side wall. It would take days because they have to get permission. All in all, American Home Shield provided the best solution, an excellent diagnosis of the issue and they did a very good job up front, so that we’re not going back and forth with the electric company. It’s always a positive experience working with AHS.

I've been with AHS for some time. Our realtor told us that American Home Shield was the best option when it comes to home warranty. My mom also had them continuously since she bought her home over 20 years ago. So we got a policy from them as well. One thing I would like them to do is have an easier way to clarify the difference between what’s covered and what's not. Some of the things that the techs have told us that were needed to be done, AHS has told us were not covered. They would even send us the clause where it states that.
American Home Shield also needs to be more specific about the difference between a major repair and a minor repair, and if our home service is only for minor repairs, like plumbing, because anything beyond that, our coverage truly doesn't cover. I understand that because the warranty is affordable at $53 a month but I'm now wondering if they have a detailed plan where you could buy up. That part to me has been kind of frustrating. Who gets to say what’s covered and not covered?
American Home Shield should vet some of their vendors in terms of presentation. Once, we were having an electrical issue and we couldn't cook. I went online and filed a claim. Being computer literate, doing that was easy for me. The first vendor that came out seemed like they were fishing to see how much work was gonna be involved. They seemed like they weren't interested and told me that I might wanna call AHS back and get someone else. A gentleman from Alejo Electric then came out. I was apprehensive to open up my door for him because he didn't look really professional. He had a van with just a plaster on it that I could’ve made in my class with a paint drawn in. I was glad my husband came home. But the guy was prompt and seemed very knowledgeable. He explained to us what was going on. I was pleased. It took eight days before that claim got completed.

My oven door was not closing properly and I started to submit a claim with American Home Shield online for that, but I ended up having to call for other reasons. Everything with the claim process was easy-peasy, and the rep could answer greatly to all questions. The contractor from Limelite was great. We highly recommend them. They ordered hinges and replaced the hinges, and I'm all good. I'm just wondering that when I called American Home Shield, they said my account number was different.

I've called in claims before but I've done it online as well, and American Home Shield seems pretty responsive either case. Generally, the contractors have been pretty good too. This is down in South Hill, so people are nice here. A garbage disposal recently went bad and the techs came out, assessed it and then replaced it.

The heater on my rental property wasn't working and after easily filing a claim with American Home Shield, they immediately confirmed who the contractor was and gave me the number. I then called the contractor and they got to the property that afternoon. They addressed everything and they were very informative on the steps. However, the time it takes for the repair company to come out depends on what the issue is and when it's happening. If the issue was about the AC during summer, the repair company will have taken a couple of weeks to arrive. Anyway, the contractor that did the heating unit went above and beyond and I was impressed with their professionalism. It was fantastic.

I host a television show on real estate and American Home Shield used to be a great sponsor with us. We wanna get people buying homes a home protection plan whether or not they pay for it or we pay for it. I have nine properties myself and I've been using American Home Shield for 30 years. When the heater in one of my properties was going on and off, American Home Shield sent a guy who was really good. Sometimes, the vendors that American Home Shield have are not as good. But this guy was really thoughtful in figuring out what was going on. He had to come back about three times because there was a split wire that was shorting out that was really hard to find, but he traced the whole thing. He did a thorough job and my tenant is very happy now.
American Home Shield has always been really good. The first guy that was their representative was the best. But the last girl they had down there was not as receptive. She was okay though. American Home Shield try to use the same vendors and that’s pretty important. But there's just one thing. I always like to talk to the service people that are out working on a property so they can explain to me what is going on. But I was told that it was against policy to allow the service person to call me. That didn’t sit well with me and I didn't necessarily understand why.
I’m the owner of the house. I should be able to talk to the guy who is fixing it. But I don't know if that's an American Home Shield policy or the contractor's policy. Other than that, I usually recommend American Home Shield. I work for a big company, Dickson Realty, and any time we list a property, we automatically have a policy put on the listing and we try to convert that to a sale when the property closes. We are pretty successful with that.

I submitted a claim online due to a small leak in one of the taps and American Home Shield sent out Grade A Plumbing. The guy was here within four hours. He saw the problem and showed me that aside from the leak I had seen in the front, there were also leaks on both the sides and even in the wall. It was a small dripping leak and our biggest concern was that it was wasting water on a daily basis. Initially, I thought it would get corrected by itself as certain things do, but it did not happen. We waited for three days until we realized that the drip was a concern enough to be rectified. It could have been a major expense if it wasn't identified. The guy fixed it within a few minutes and he was gone. I have been using that shower after that and it seems completely fixed.
I've had American Home Shield for about six months now and I've used it a couple of times. I also had a plumbing claim in the past wherein American Home Shield sent Grade A and the person who came in for the second time was the same person who came before. He was able to show me what exactly needed to be done. It basically needed some bolt tightening every time I open and close the tap. The house is a relatively older one and has older plumbing. I also used American Home Shield for winter HVAC cleaning. So far, it has been a good experience and I would recommend American Home Shield to my friends.

I've been with American Home Shield for two years and I've had a couple of calls from other companies wherein I told them I’m happy with American Home Shield. I've been submitting claims over the phone and their reps have been great until it came down to the garage door opener. They had a guy come out and he was here for five minutes. He checked the garage door opener out and he said he couldn't guarantee anything but he'd see what he could do for me when he got back to the shop. AHS would not replace it and I was on my own. It was frustrating.
I’m a widow at 63 and I have a hard time opening the garage door manually. Everybody else has been great though. When my disposal was acting up, the contractor brought in a new one and he was in and out in half an hour. When my washing machine went out, the contractor came in, took my old one out (it was not worth repairing), and brought me a brand-new one. They were in and out in 15 minutes.

We had a problem with our cooktops. I emailed American Home Shield for my claim and it was easy. It's standard nowadays, but sometimes, it's very hard to explain in the email what's going on. If somebody places a claim, they should make sure some human calls them and they understand. Nevertheless, the contractor was good. The actual problem was the breaker, so they replaced the main breaker but then, they said that the stoves are not repairable. I was told that if I didn't choose the one they have, I should buy my own. I bought my own stove, sent the receipt and AHS refunded me around $400.

American Home Shield sends out some of the worst rated companies in the area and this becomes a nightmare. When my air went out in the summer with temps averaging 98 degrees, they send a company that did a terrible job. They ordered the wrong part, then almost two weeks later, they sent two kids that look like they were in high school, the repair had to be redone. When my tankless hot water heater broke they sent out someone who didn't know how to fix. I had to contact them and request another company. Needless to say was out of hot water for close to a three weeks.
Just a suggestion, AHS should partner with Angie's List or HomeAdvisor so their customers can get great service quickly the first time. My refrigerator is out now and I will have to wait 3 days before a AHS repair person can get to my home. If you never used HomeAdvisor, once you put in a service request you normally get several phone calls from companies who are more highly rated than those who AHS dispatches to your home. AHS it seems as though they are more content with collection annual and service fees without regard to the level of service the companies they use to do your repairs. (Dec 2017)
Now my Microwave died and my oven is not heating properly, they want to sent a company that I can't find any information on when I searched the internet. The other company they want to send has 2 star ratings from other customers. And I have spent 4 hours total today with service rep. I will definitely be cancelling this contract. Just like I mentioned in my previous comments from Dec 2017 they will sent any 2 star company to your home but the rep was bragging today about having the most advanced technology to request service. What a joke. I will be posting these feedbacks on every and all site to let everyone know AHS is horrible. Oh and I bet I get some generic reply about how sorry they are for my dissatisfaction, blah, blah...all lip and no action!!!

Once the heat goes off, it was supposed to come apart, which it wouldn't do and it wasn’t telling the thermostat to cool it off. The only thing for me about AHS is just the waiting. I'm a realtor and I always recommend American Home Shield because I have them and I use them and they’ve always been really good. I have them for eight years now and recently, I submitted a claim for an AC tune-up where they sent out Anthem Mechanical Palm Springs. This one went a little bit quicker than my other claims, which was nice, but maybe it was because it was not 120 degrees out yet, so they weren’t that busy. I called on a Friday and the rep I talked to told me that they could have somebody here on Monday. Then on Monday morning, she called and said that a technician called in sick, so they needed to reschedule. But it was no big deal. The tech was here on Tuesday and he was very professional and on time.
When I have a claim, I just call it in and I speak to a person. I don't usually do the automated thing. For this last claim, it was kinda weird because when I called AHS, I was on hold for quite a while. When I finally got somebody, he gave me a number and told me that I had to call it. So, I hung up and did as he told me. But I called and waited on hold again. It turned out that it was the exact same number that I had called to get with him, so that was strange.

It’s relatively simple to do claims with AHS. I submit the claim and then the contractor contacts me later that day. The contractors are knowledgeable and they do the job. The rates are high though. The AHS service fee and the monthly rate went up without any notice. Also, it would be excellent if they have a better variety of contractors available. In the past, I had contractors that I didn’t particularly care for but I was stuck with them anyway. Also, we work to be able to afford the service but I had to adjust my schedule around it. If they have more contractors, I wouldn’t have to adjust my schedule. I got friends that also have AHS and we’ve had it for a really long time. We had it at this house and we still got it at our other house and that seemed to be the same thing. I basically have to take off for my appointment because they don’t have enough contractors to work around the schedule.
But other than that, having AHS is really convenient when I don’t have to search for a contractor and take a chance on paying and not getting the service. In fact, I have recommended AHS to people with houses, especially those that work and older people because it’s convenient to not have to deal with strange contractors, not knowing if they’ll like us or abandon us.
Hello, Sonsoray. The furnace stopped working so we called American Home Shield to file a claim. It was over the weekend, so there wasn’t anybody that could come and get it fixed. The places aren’t open on the weekends so that was a bit of a letdown. It was easy to do the claim which could be done online or through call and text. It was disappointing though that it was wintertime and we had no heat for a whole weekend. Luckily, it was a warmer weekend when it happened. It's hard though to have children and get them ready for school when it's really cold in the house. But by Monday, somebody came and fixed it and got it running.
The guy who came explained things that he was doing. He was friendly, very nice and professional. The furnace has been fine since then. However, there should be a more immediate way to address some life and death conditions than waiting until something is open. There are places that are open 24/7 that respond to emergency calls so they could also expand the amount of contractors that they can use.

I ended up calling them the latest time. Their customer service reps are professional.
Since I signed up with them again, I've only had Letz Appliance come and I liked them. They put in a new faucet for me and did a great job. The new faucet is working fine because before, it had not been properly put in. It was explained to me how it was fitting and that was why I had that terrible leak. They used plastic parts and that didn’t help. The tech put in my new one and fits it perfectly. I haven’t had any leaks, and there’s been no water coming out from underneath the piece. One evening, we discovered that the AC unit wasn’t cooling and it was blowing warm air. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor, A-US Air Conditioning of Texas, came out. It wasn’t even 15 minutes from the time that the technician got here until the time he was done. He had the part on his truck, he went outside, He diagnosed the issue relatively quickly. Then he went out and had the part on his truck, and he replaced it. So, there was no wait there and it was the fastest repair of any kind that I’ve had.
Then I had one other claim in the same week. Our washing machine was having an issue. This time, the tech didn’t have the part on his truck which is completely understandable. But he diagnosed the problem and explained it to me. It was great that he diagnosed it and prevented a flood from happening in the house. He disconnected everything so that there wouldn’t be an issue while we were waiting for the part to come in. When the part came in, he arrived, replaced it, and was done in 10 minutes. So, the service at that time was painless as well. I filed the first claim over the phone. Then I set up my online account and filed the second claim online. Both were very easy. My property in Vegas is a rental and the tenant ordered two services from American Home Shield. I paid the service fee of $75 for the garage door and he paid for the AC but his credit card didn’t go through. Not knowing that he had to pay for a service fee, I thought that my payment bounced. So, I called the billing department and the billing confused me. I didn’t know that there were two different service fees they were talking about. The rep couldn’t explain it to me on the phone. I knew that he wasn’t speaking English and he wasn’t listening.
I was on the phone almost an hour with this guy including being on hold for 45 minutes waiting to speak to a supervisor and he would not let me speak to one. Then, he transferred me to the cancellation department where the lady was nice. She was able to log on to the computer and explained everything to me. She said it was the same system that he was reading. Within five minutes, she cleared everything up and was able to take my payment. Considering she has a rough job of dealing people who want to cancel, she was very nice. She saved AHS from me cancelling.
Since it's a rental, the tenant usually makes the claims. The team and the property management that I hired usually does it but when it comes to the billing part, I get involved. I've had two claims with American Home Shield, so far. I've put in a heating claim when I was having issues with my thermostat and another one for a ductwork. The ductwork was more of a foundation issue, the way the house was built. The contractor didn't sound too optimistic that American Home Shield will pay for anything but I'm still waiting to hear from AHS. The first call that I made was because I had a leak in my basement. And for whatever reason, they said AHS didn't cover that either. Nevertheless, the contractors that came out were fine.
Every time I'd call AHS, they'd tell me that my issues would not be covered under the policy. They'd charge me money and would tell me whoever would be coming out to look at my house, and then they wouldn't cover anything. I'm paying for the visits from whoever's coming over to my house, but I didn't pay for the policy. I got the policy after I bought the house and all the text messages I get have the previous owner's name on it. I've called a couple of times to complain about that and they continue to send me text messages with her name on it and not mine.
Somebody has already paid for the policy, so AHS is making on that. On top of that, they're charging me to have these guys come out and tell me that AHS don't cover anything. I understand when something is not covered, but don't charge me to have somebody come out to my house and then not give me my money back. That's not fair. So far, I'm out of pocket of at least $200 and nothing got fixed in my house. Having American Home Shield has been worthless. Instead of helping me save money on things that I need, it has cost me money. I've gotten zero out of having this policy.
Good Afternoon Giuseppe,

"Coverage under your Agreement is for a Covered Item malfunction occurring during your Agreement Term caused by: a. Normal wear and tear of the Covered Item; b. Rust or corrosion of the Covered Item; c. Improper installation, repair, or modification of the Covered Item; d. System installation where component units of the Covered Item were not properly matched to each other for proper operation; or e. Insufficient maintenance of the Covered Item." DO NOT PURCHASE THIS HOME "WARRANTY"! I had an emergency - Septic backup on a Saturday - I put a claim in and was told 24 hours until I could get a call. They gave me the name (I submitted claim online) and Googled the plumbing company --- never heard of, no websites, no reviews, no basis that this was a real company. The company never called. Mind you - this is a septic back up - an emergency situation. My family was without water. I called a local major company to come out. I ended up having to replace a septic pump. Again, put a claim in, a different service and got the same, no-name plumbing company out of Detroit with no online presence. Seemed sketchy. So I waited for a call, no call. I again had a major local company come in and fix my septic pump.
I contacted AHS to possibly be reimbursed. I was told to submit a claim, and I sent a letter of explanation why I could not wait for the EMERGENCY situation and they denied my claim. I understand they want you to use their companies - but this was an emergency - there was septic back up --- and they still denied my claim. I got a letter, already saying basically I could not appeal and my file was closed. Also, BTW the letter came from another company called "Front Door" which is odd since AHS is my warranty company. Completely dissatisfied.

Updated on 05/28/2019: I thought after writing my second review about the ongoing issues with this company there was finally a solution! Well that turned out to be more of the same runaround. In the beginning of April I spoke to someone and that person told me "we talked to last company, sent out to look at your stove and we’re replacing it and you have two options. Pick one of the stoves on the list they sent to me or find your own and we’ll send a check for $1200 the cost determined for the stove of no use". Well I go out and purchase one. Notified them that I’ve purchased a stove within that amount and have be waiting on the check for almost two months.
Now we get to last week and today, phone call after phone call to be told it wasn’t approved. They can’t find the information stating it was. "We have claims that have been waiting a year (that was said after I exclaimed this is ridiculous we’ve been without a properly working stove since September of last year). We don’t know who told you that, we can’t find anything but let us go back and check, no one should’ve told you that!" Just ridiculous! When you asks to speak to someone other than the first person you get, the calls are on hold for 15 minutes or longer and they conveniently are disconnected! The last caller hung up and told me they would do so after asking for someone over her! How is it possible for so many “customer service reps” poorly handle one claim and not pass a call through to someone higher up in the company for a proper and final resolution?!
Updated on 03/25/2019: So in my first review last week, I mentioned that “AHS” wanted to send another tech out to look at the stove. He comes out and of course “AHS” hasn’t mentioned or explained to him the reason for the service call, only was told that there was a broke stove. He looked at the stove and made the exact assessment of the previous service tech in January. that it was broke while it was being serviced and it shows that! After taking pictures he explained that when they are sent out that if upon arrival they discover something is broken then they want touch it or work on it, especially if a different service company is responsible for breaking it.
Before leaving he says he’s going to write up his report and get back to me so I wouldn’t have to wait for a response, which I greatly appreciated it! Just got that follow up call and was told that “AHS” told him that the cook top was broke the first time they were sent out! Unbelievable??? Not that I expected anything less after the 7 months of BS customer service, response time, follow up and the run around that has been given to me.
I knew sending out someone would be another day wasted with no resolve and more BS to add to and already unnerving situation! The crack in the cooktop is so large why would they pick it up to attempt working on it (which was the thought of the service tech and myself in the follow up call) if it was in fact there the first service call??? They wouldn’t and it wasn’t and they came back not once but 2 times after the first call and the third visit is what lead to the day they actually cracked it!
Original review: This has been horrible customer service and communication! The company they sent to repair the stove in September for a very minor issue created bigger issues after the first “repair”! After waiting over a month for a part to come in, during the install the two techs cracked the stove top which was on Halloween 2018. I heard the loud thud the tech simply stated use it if it works after inquiring about the thud. Called AHS and explained what happened and told them I have security cameras and it showed what happen. Was told by AHS to tell them when they come back. Which didn’t make since they broke the stove why would you have them come back (which was supposed to be before Thanksgiving)?!
Well nevertheless upon return a week after Thanksgiving it didn’t go very well at all! He stated that he had to replace the part I just waited a month for again and a heated conversation took place about them cracking the cook top last visit! Called AHS back they said they would send someone else. It’s the beginning of December now and a new tech shows up clueless as to any of the ongoing issues that have been going on and explains he just came for a broke stove, didn’t know what kind it was because AHS didn’t tell him and he doesn’t work on induction stoves! So then I call AHS and they tell me someone else will be here to fix the stove, which will make 6 days I took off and 4 different techs. On this particular visit the tech says it’s clear to him that the techs broke it during work on it and that he would write up his assessment as such and let AHS know.
Now we’re into January, spoke to someone from AHS and they said they would order a replacement and apologized for any inconvenience etc. Called last month still trying to find a stove. Called this morning March 20, and was told the claim was denied! How did it go from us waiting since January for a replacement stove to them saying the claim was denied? Miraculously all the previous discussion about them finding a replacement disappeared in the notes and were never logged, yet my payments every month haven’t disappeared!
So after speaking to someone the initial start of the call was transferred to someone in the “resolution” department. Was put on hold a few times why she tried to find any information about the replacement, claimed she had just called the last tech and was told he couldn’t determine what happened. Did she have his number on speed dial, was only on hold for about a min? Funny how customer service calls start with them saying you’re being recorded yet when they need to use their own recordings or grab information from the “recorded calls” they can’t seem to locate the information. Then she says let her send someone else out to finally resolve this problem. To resolve or so he can make an assessment based on what AHS would like him to report back. It seems as if us the customer being frustrated and still going on 7 months without a working stove they want us to cancel the policy. I can tell you this I’m not!
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I have been with AHS for around a year. My first experience with them was actually not too bad except I had to stay on them to replace my microwave. My second experience was a nightmare and I have pictures to prove it. My hot water heater was not heating well so they sent a company that was rated 1.5 stars which I understand happens sometimes. So I was being patient and watched his work. He then proceeded, without draining the water heater which everyone should know to do, he decided to open it up.
Well guess what happened. Around 30 gallons of water sprayed out and went all over him, and later me since I helped do bucket runs to remove water from my garage. My garage was flooded with water and most of my items it it got soaked. The one positive is the guy from the shop stayed with me and help clean up. It took us 2 hours to do it and I lost some items in the process. Everyone makes mistakes and I understand that and it was cool of him to help.
The part I didn't like is AHS called and seemed to be proud that they were not going to fix a few of the items on the repair. Which again I understand. What I don't understand is that when I told them what happened they didn't seem to care. I personally feel for the hell I went through they should have at least not charged me for the call. On top of that which is perfect for me, they sent me my new bill for the year on the same day this happened and it actually went up. I will be looking for a different company.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

You do not deserve a full one star. I have Called 6 times for 5 days. Absolutely ridiculous. Spoke with supervisor Jom. Constantly put on hold for 15-20 mins. So over the summer, our air compressor was not working properly and living in AZ, the heat is unbearable. It took over 3 weeks for them to solve the issue, and not only that but they did not install the new air compressor properly so, then when winter arrived our heat pumper did not work due to their mistake. When the contractor who came to fix the heater analyzed that the heater was not working because the compressor was installed improperly. The contractor said he will refund the service because he was not able to fix anything. We called again for another contractor to come out for a follow up on our heat pump, and no one has yet to fix it and our service payment was not refunded and it has been OVER A MONTH. Customer service seemed incompetent as well.

I’ve filed multiple claims at American Home Shield over the phone and they narrowed it down. I had plumbing issues where the toilet performance was an old style from the late 80's, and I simply replaced the toilets. The only drawback was that their hold time was enormous. I was on hold for 25 minutes and that was the painful part, especially when I was trying to find contractors. Callbacks are good but sometimes the contractors are limited. Recently, two were not available. I already had two guys out, but they were not resolving the issues. I had to get the company to stretch a little bit and find somebody else. But the contractors were great and very nice. They came in the next day, showed up with the equipment and did the work fine.
In terms of my experience with the reps, there's a communication gap and a language barrier sometimes. Sometimes the English language is a challenge. Other than that, it's not bad. They attempt to resolve the issue and seem positive about trying to resolve it. American Home Shield has been good and I would suggest a friend to at least look into using it for sure.

My refrigerator water dispenser broke and AHS sent Jones Family. They were really professional guys so nothing against them. They were trying to fix it then American Home Shield offered me to take $64 and call anybody, buy the part for the dispenser and fix it. I told them how this is impossible. Some won't even come. For the part that is like 300 dollars to come and then AHS is offering a $64, it's just like I'm buying a toy from them so I was very unsatisfied. Then they ordered my part which I had to wait three weeks.
Parts came and Jones fixed the water dispenser and then again, it broke. Jones Family had to do step-by-step to do the work. Then they asked us to replace the door. AHS called me back again offering me 500 something dollar just for the door, which is costing them. I had to wait within 10 to 12 weeks for that. I asked AHS why not just replace the whole refrigerator. If they cannot replace it, at least offer me the minimum amount so we can come in the middle and I can put some to buy a new refrigerator. It's going to cost $1,500 before they offered $64 for the part. I'm also working with the water for more than two months and paying for the water outside to be my use.
I picked up AHS on recommendation but this company is worthless to be when it comes to claims or this kind of situation. They play with their customers like they're playing with the children and give them lollipop they just provide. It's not worth to have a company because there's a lot of pain when calling just to resolve the matter. You have to hold the line an hour and a half for somebody to talk to you. I'm just holding to be finished with this claim and I tell them bye.
Good afternoon Ashwani,
Your concerns are understood regarding the refrigerator and water dispenser repairs that needed to be completed. I would be glad to speak with you and assist to reach a resolution.

I had a microwave that wasn’t working and American Home Shield's rep took care of business when they needed to. The contractor came out in about two days, but couldn’t do anything for me as far as the work. He sent the work order to AHS and they sent the item to me about a week later. It has to be installed and I'm waiting on the contractor to arrive today.

We've had our furnace serviced before and then again recently, we had a claim for it with a different reason. I went through the online process and it was very simple. American Home Shield sent Value Heating who I already know 'cause they’ve worked on both of my properties before. They're good guys and they work really well. We explained the problem to them when they came out, and they fixed it. The furnace has been okay since the repair and I've no complaints.
The only thing I have with American Home Shield is that during high-level seasons when it's really cold or really hot, they tend to have only 2 or 3 service companies that they contract within my area. So, I have to wait sometimes. If it's a high summer and it's 105 degrees, and the air conditioning breaks down, one would wind up waiting a few days for help. Same thing happens in the wintertime when it's freezing cold and the furnace breaks. That’s the only rub. Still, American Home Shield is a great service and I've invited many people to get it.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was having my septic tank pumped. I submitted my claim online. AHS sent Marshall Septic and the tech said that my septic tank needed to be pumped and they were gonna send someone else, but it took a while. I called AHS to find out if they found anyone. They told me to give them a little more time to try to find somebody, and if they didn't, I could go on and find somebody else and then they would reimburse me. The guy from Marshall called and told me I had to pay upfront but AHS told me not to. I started to call Marshall back and told them that I won't pay the tech upfront and if he had a problem we can call AHS. The guy said it was okay and it there was no problem.
My sister has AHS too. Her septic tank had to be pumped just recently and Marshall Septic did her the same way. She ended up not even using them. If the service is for us to not pay somebody upfront, every vendor should know that and not put the customer in stress of worrying about what AHS is saying versus what they're saying.

American Home Shield's service is very fast. My property is rented out, and normally, I leave my renter’s phone number and name. So, I’m not at the home for the problem fixing. They are charged by my renter. But I place all the orders on the website, and normally, I will receive a phone call within one hour once I have placed my order. The website is very easy to use. It's very convenient. Having the warranty on my property is important for the price. But next year, it will be a little bit expensive for me. It should be increased from 500 per year to $65 per month. Other than that, I've had a very good experience and I'm very satisfied.

The heater failed and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online and it was super easy although we had to wait a couple of days. I made the call on a Wednesday and the techs were here on Friday. The repair couldn't be better and everything has been operating perfectly. AHS should stick with the contractor that they used. The guy did a phenomenal job.
Good morning Andrew,

I was having issues with my stove. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. The response that I received from the rep was fine. They were always courteous, understanding, and apologetic. The contractor would've been out in about two days, but he ended up canceling because the stove started working fine.

The American Home Shield representatives knew what they were talking about when I called in claims. We had good, quick and to the point interactions. The contractors also called me right away. When the faucet was not turned correctly, somebody came for it. It was leaking and the guy fixed it. Having the repair done helped. Then I also had an air conditioner issue where United Air Temp came. Overall, whoever AHS sent had been excellent.

My water heater quit giving hot water so I submitted a claim to AHS and the process was fast. I was not happy at first because we had been out of water for a while and they were gonna make me wait another week so I got a little upset. My wife needed the hot water so we had to warm up the water on the stove and wash dishes, etc. But the contractor contacted me and said he’d be here the next day. We were out of water over the weekend and the guy showed up, replaced my water heater, and we’re done. He did a great job. It was an excellent experience.

I made a claim over the phone to American Home Shield when my central air unit wasn't blowing hot or cool air, and we had some issues with the processing of the claim. There were four options but it didn't cover my specific product, and the recording said to push. They ended up deducting my deductible out of my bank account two times. It was my fault though, and the rep straightened it out eventually. In addition, I was talking to somebody I didn't understand. She was a foreigner and I had issues understanding her. But as far as the technician, he was great. I called him and he was out here within an hour. What shocked me was he came all the way from Rolla. He was on it and he knew what he was doing. Since the repair, I've had no issues whatsoever.
We also had some issues with our washer and dryer a little over a year ago. We had to have the guy who was working on it come out here. I told him that we'd spent a lot of money on our appliance, and I asked if it would be more economical to go out and buy a new unit instead. He told me that it would be, but they think it's better to rebuild one practically. We had to order three parts because they had problems figuring out what was wrong, but in the end, we got it fixed.

I opened a claim online with American Home Shield for my oven and the process was quick. However, the contractor took too long to fix it. I went through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year without my oven. The guy who worked on it has great demeanor and work ethic but when he troubleshot initially, he didn't troubleshoot the right part. And he ordered the wrong parts. I just got the oven fixed a couple of weeks ago. My daughter used it this weekend to bake and they were happy. I live in a house with a bunch of women and they need to have their appliances. If they don't have their appliances, it's not for a good, happy house.

American Home Shield was recommended to me by a friend that I work with. I trust her judgment and know that she would not pay for a service that is not worth it or that will do a bad job so I was very upset when I had bad experiences. I almost left AHS. I'm very upset and frustrated with my heating problem. I submitted the claim over the phone. The lady I spoke with who scheduled the claim was wonderful. The claim started in October, then I called back in January because I came home and the system was completely off. The person that came out was a kid. He tried to rig things, separate things and do whatever he did with the fuses. Then he said that the heating should work.
Six weeks later, I came home and the same thing happened so obviously, it was not fixed. The kid gave me his card with his personal number on it and told me to call him in case the repair didn’t work. When AHS denied the fact that they sent somebody out in January, I was beyond fuming. I was head over heels angry. I had proof and was not going to pay. I shouldn’t have had to fight to get somebody to listen when I told them that it was an ongoing problem that they didn’t fix and that they needed to get somebody else out.
They knew that the person was out there so when they sent somebody else out, he said that he'd order the part and we'd be all set. It wasn’t covered though and I had to fight for that. That was unacceptable. When the most recent tech came out, they looked at everything, found the problem and said that it was very obvious. When the heating wasn’t working properly, my electric bill tripled. I had to have space heaters in order to be in my house. I was very close to calling and telling AHS that they were going to pay my electric bills, but I refrained.
The guy that fixed my refrigerator was great though. He came out, told me what was wrong and ordered the part. I was extremely satisfied with him. I was fairly satisfied when they came back because it was fixed, but not too happy with the fact that they left all the parts. I have no idea how to dispose of them legally, so it's sitting in my kitchen right now.
