I've been with American Home Shield for a few years and I've never had a problem whenever I made a claim. Within 24 hours someone has contacted me and within 24 hours of that phone call, they are at my home. Recently, my heater stopped working and started to blow cold air. I called AHS and the contractor who came was someone I've used before. He is always on time, very professional, and friendly.

We had American Home Shield when we moved into our first home 10 years ago and it has always been very good. We were pleasantly surprised when we purchased this new home and saw that the same warranty company was gonna handle it because they were very helpful the first time we used them. When I submitted claims with AHS, I discovered how easy it was to do it on the web. So, I’ve been doing it on the website where I go and click what the problem is. I usually go and triple check that the problem is covered by our warranty. Once I verify it is, I can go ahead and I can do the submission that way.

When we couldn't get hot water out of our shower, the contractors who came out were super nice. They showed me what the problem was and how they fixed it, and it was an easy fix. They replaced a piece and they had another piece on their car, so I didn't have to go out and buy another one. They were able to repair fairly quickly. They even mentioned that my hot water was a little hot. So, before they left, they took a quick look and made sure they adjusted it. I told them that I have young children and I don't wanna burn them. The contractors were nice enough to take a minute, looked it over, and showed me how to adjust my hot water heater.

We had a water heater that went bad. We submitted the claim with American Home Shield and the online process was very easy. The initial response was very quick and it took about four hours before we got an actual response. However, it took us a week to get the water heater repaired. The service provider that they had locally didn't have an opening for two or three days. We reported on a Friday, but they couldn't even come out to look at it until Tuesday. When they looked at it, they said the heater was gonna have to be replaced, so it took them another three days to get the heater and get back on their schedule to get it out here and get replaced.

The contractors were very professional and very proficient. When they first showed up on the initial visit, they were very quick to diagnose what the problem was. They said the water heater was 20 years old and the heating element had failed and that it needed to be replaced. They got a hold of American Home Shield and got approval for the replacements and to make sure that everything was gonna be covered. And while they were here, the work they did was excellent. The water heater has been working fine since then.

The icemaker wasn’t working and there was visible rust in the freezer and refrigerator compartment. Submitting the claim for it online with American Home Shield was fairly easy. Before this, there was a first claim and I had two appliances. We had a power outage and I had a problem submitting for the second appliance. It wasn’t clear to me how to do that, so I called and the person on the phone was very helpful. The icemaker was in a second home and I wasn’t there and when I talked to the tech on the phone, he told me that he did what he said he was gonna do. He didn’t call me to tell me he’d actually done the job though. There had been a snowstorm and he called to tell me that he would do the job at another time but he never called me back to tell me the job was complete. I had to call them in a few days to ask what the status was.

Also, for the rust issue, I had to reach out back to AHS to ask what they came up with? The tech never reported back to me about that issue and I’ve never heard from American Home Shield to tell me about that part of the claim, which I assumed the tech submitted but he kinda gave me his own opinion that it wasn’t something that American Home Shield would cover. There was a gray area there as if the rust would be covered or was covered or non-covered. The follow-through on both the service company, Ken’s Repair Service, and American Home Shield has not been that great. But other than that, we’re happy to have the coverage.

We have a two-year-old refrigerator that suddenly would not keep anything cold. So we called American Home Shield and reported a claim. They dispatched this BRM outfit and it took them about two weeks to get it fixed because they don't carry parts with them. I'm accustomed to service people coming to your house and having parts with them or they can quickly get one and fix the problem on the same day. This was the first time that I was not sure if the guy was equipped to do the job.

My impression was that he was a little mom-and-pop guy. He wasn't a vendor that carried any sort of inventory although that's unrealistic these days, given the variety of refrigerators and brands then the models within the brand, that he would have every single part in his inventory. I was just disappointed that it took so long to wait for parts and get it fixed. It was a little bit more than annoying to have a refrigerator that didn't work for two weeks. He was a lovely gentleman and a nice man. But I didn't have a level of trust with him. My husband even said that we should have just bitten the bullet and called Sears. They would have had all the parts and the problem would have gotten solved, presumably, on the same day in one visit.

At first, the contractor came and fixed one part that he thought he needed. But then he discovered, while he was replacing that part, that he needed another one. So we had a few more days to wait for him to order that other part. But then the refrigerator stopped working totally. We thought he was all done though, and we went and did our grocery shopping. We spent a few hundred bucks on groceries with the family but when we woke up, everything in the refrigerator was ruined because it had thawed over the night.

That happened on a Saturday morning and he came back out on Monday. But during the weekend, he asked us to unplug, wait for a few minutes then plug the refrigerator back in to reset everything. We did that and that seemed to jumpstart it. Everything was working fine. When he got here, he started looking at the electrical plug. He said that it wasn't grounded and that the white and the black cables weren't reversed. He surmised that there was some issue with the electricity and that we should have an electrician take a look at it. American Home Shield then dispatched State Electric. They came out, did their testing and said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the electricity.

Since we had plugged the refrigerator in on the last weekend, it's been fine. But we are reluctant to go do a big grocery shopping and put something in there. We just don't trust it. But it's holding out on its own and hopefully it continues to do so. As time goes by, my trust will be okay. It's just sad because the damn refrigerator is two years old. It is $3,000 worth of an appliance and it aggravates me to no end that we're replacing parts in it already. It's not a heavy traffic refrigerator either. Overall, I'm satisfied. American Home Shield was very responsive. And maybe it was just this situation. American Home Shield did a furnace for me last year and I couldn't have been more pleased with the folks they sent out for that. They were wonderful.

He was real thorough, on time and courteous. He explained things to me and when he had to order parts and follow up, he did that exactly what he said he would. The pool pump for the main pool started to leak. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and there was a quick response. My parents used American Home Shield before and whenever they called, there was a long waiting time, so it is a lot easier to file the claim online. The contractors came out and replaced the volutes and a couple of other parts. They restored everything and took care of the problem. However, it started leaking again. They didn’t tighten the clamp around it all the way down. They came back out and that fixed the problem. The contractor told me what was going on and how he was gonna solve the issue. He solved it and it also gave me a general idea of how the pump works and why the issue happens. Overall, the experience was good.

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for our heating and air conditioning unit as we were having a problem with it. The house is older and so the unit has been refitted. The repair company AHS sent came out thrice and put a new board in. However, the unit eventually fried it in a week. The company then came out and said that the unit needed to be replaced. American Home Shield ordered a unit that met the government's current rules and regulations. The installation people picked up the unit and they were prompt. They kept me well-informed of where they were, what was going on, and when they expected the unit in. Then, as soon as it came in, they came out and installed it. They put a new base on the air conditioner, which was just sitting on blocks before, and had me up and going within a week.

The courtesy of American Home Shield's contact person was always super, as well as their willingness to help me with a problem. We were having a very cold month and we're both disabled here at the house. They knew that we really need some heat and so they got on it and got it turned around quicker than I thought we would. They have also always been very helpful and kept me informed. When the claim had to be sent to another department to get approval, they let me know what was going on and when I should hear back. So I've been very pleased. Also, thank goodness, we had taken American Home Shield's policy out because if not, I would’ve been stuck spending $6,000 and $7,000. I've had the policy for a year now and I've renewed my contract with only a $2 increase. I have recommended American Home Shield to a couple of people who have older homes and have to remodel them.

One of the smartest things a homeowner can do is to get American Home Shield. Last week, our icemaker wouldn’t let water out through the ice machine. It was making ice but we weren’t getting water in the glass. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and their contractor came and did whatever he needed to do. He got a hairdryer out and he blew the hairdryer onto the icemaker until it thawed out. It worked great and he left. The guy who came out was very friendly, customer-caring and very intelligent. He knew what he was doing and he did a great job. He explained what he was doing and said that typically, that was the problem with the refrigerators nowadays. Apparently, the icemaker froze because of lack of use. My wife drinks a lot of water and I don’t. So, when she was out of town, it wasn’t being utilized and, therefore, it froze up.

Since then, water was running really quickly and everything was doing great. And then, as my wife was going to bed last night, she realized that the carpet was wet in the bedroom and it was cold water. I told her that I might have spilled something and that we’ll check it in the morning. We went to bed, got up this morning and came out, and the carpet was soaking wet. I went in to the kitchen and stepped on the floor, and the water was coming up through our wooden floor. I pulled the refrigerator out and there was a leak behind the refrigerator, in the waterline that goes into the refrigerator. I can’t drive and my wife is blind so we can't go and replace the waterline. I called American Home Shield and filed a claim. They are supposed to call me and they have not called yet so I shut the waterline off.

It's better if you pay it after the service has been done and after everything has been finished.

The refrigerator was making noises and everything in the freezer part was all covered, like somebody had taken chipped ice and poured it all over. I submitted the claim over the phone and I tried to tell the representative what was going on with the refrigerator. That experience is good if you can ever get in. But their recording is unnecessary. You go to a round of mess, just trying to get to speak to a live person. It would be nice if they didn't have to do all of that nonsense with those recordings.

It takes about a day or two for the person to come out and the guy who came out for this claim was excellent. He introduced himself. He let me know who he was and what he was here for. He also showed me some identification. I wasn't just gonna let anybody come in my house. He even wanted to take off his shoes before he came in and put his rubber shoes but I told him it was okay. It was really great. When he came in, he looked at the issue and said that some kind of motor in the back was messed up and that was causing it to mess with the ice maker. Then he started explaining what he had to do after he examined it and seen what was going on. He had excellent knowledge of what he was doing.

He had to order a part and after it came, he came back and put it in. It was excellent. It doesn't make all that noise in my refrigerator now. I can also go there and get stuff out without being all frozen and having ice all over everything in there. I was very satisfied with the work performance, the repair and his attitude. His overall customer service was great. In fact, I haven't had a bad experience yet with anyone that American Home Shield has sent. Our most recent claim with American Home Shield about a plumbing issue had gone very well. The technician from Poe’s Plumbing & Backflow came the same day we put in the claim. He set up on time, did the repair and everything worked. The other claim we have has been more interesting. We have a Samsung electric range and we put in a claim for a problem with it in early November, and we’ve been going back and forth between AHS and Sears for four months. It became absurd. Sears would lose the parts. They didn’t order the right parts and didn’t show up on time. AHS didn’t communicate with them on what they needed. Sears dropped the ball. But finally, we got the parts after three months.

There were some communication errors between India and Sears that were here in California. They got the part that was supposed to work, but it didn’t. It was broken. And on that basis, the Sears tech contacted AHS telling them that they should replace the unit because we’ve gone the distance for four months, and everything they tried to do failed. Only last week did they finally concede and agree to replace the unit. But they haven’t done it. Now, they’re lowballing us and they wanna replace the electric range with the lowest-end unit available, which is different than the one we have. We’re looking at models and trying to negotiate with them. It’s not over yet.

A faucet that have been replaced prior through AHS blew off and flooded the house. It literally put three inches of water in the kitchen. It was a mess. I was trying to hold the water down on the top. The cold, I could shut off but the hot, I couldn’t. It was burning my hand so I had to turn the cold back on and then run outside and shut off the water completely. It was freaking crazy, so I called AHS.

I usually submit my claims over the phone and I wait two to three days for the contractors. I’m a chemical engineer which means I understand engineering pretty darn well and there’s been a few contractors that have been absolutely freaking liars. They’re telling you, “It’s this.” “No, it’s not. Let me show you exactly what it is.” And once you called the bluff with some knowledge, “I can’t do anything about this,” The plumbers are especially terrible. All they do is they come out and BS you.

I own a few companies too so I understand a little bit about what those plumbers are doing. They cap them for projects. They just need to add a little bit more money to these guys on their caps and you would get more quality plumbers. They want $1,200 to do an ejector pump. I’m like, “What? Hey dude, right here, Home Depot. The pump is 112 bucks.” For people that don’t know things, they just fall right into that BS trap. American Home Shield only pays 600 so you gotta pay the other 600. “Hey, why don’t we do this? Why don’t you get the freak out of my house and I’ll get a contractor to do it for me and charge me 150 bucks for an hour’s worth of work. And that’s what I ended up doing.

I was also an hour and a half on the phone with American Home Shield throughout the course of a day. And that was on a Thursday, and then on a Friday, I’m like, “Hey, where’s the freaking plumber? We got no water. I got the water shut off to the house.” They said somebody would get there so this guy showed up and we had discussed I would go out and buy the quality, initial product that was in here, Moen. I bought that so that when the guy gets here, he could take that plastic piece I complained would break when he installed. I live in a million and a half dollar house, and they put in something that I’ve never even seen in a ghetto apartment. I found it online at Walmart. That exact faucet was 15 bucks, with a 1-star rating.

On Friday morning, I was waiting, and then the guy showed up in the afternoon which was supposed to be there between noon and five. He shows up at four o’clock, and this is on a Friday, and we didn’t have any water going on in the house because I had shut it off outside. He said, “Yeah, it’s no problem.” I said, “Dude, I sent pictures, videos, everything to American Home Shield. We know what the problem is, just replace it.”

He said he was just there to inspect but I told him he was not leaving the house until he replaced it. My homeowner’s insurance deductible is $5,000. They’re still remediating but it cost me $5,000. The mold down here grows and the water went all the way down to the basement, through the carpet. I wasn’t joking. So he ended up replacing it. But some contractors are rock stars. Like the GE guys are awesome. The pool pump guy is a wrestling coach at some high school here and was awesome. The company is fine. I’ve got no beef with the company, whatsoever.

I've had AHS for several years with different properties and they've done a great job. Other people should not get anybody else. The service is great and it’s great peace of mind.

I have been with American Home Shield for two years. Their website is a waste of time. I'm 74 years old and I'm not a techie at all. So I don't like using websites to file claims. While part of the problem is me, the website is not user-friendly as far as I am concerned. There are other websites that are much easier. If you have to call in over the phone, you'll end up spending 40 minutes on hold. So be prepared to sit on hold for a long time. That’s a weakness on AHS' part. However, when I finally got a live person, they were very thoughtful and thorough.

Some of American Home Shield's contractors are good, and some of them aren’t. When I had problems with my air conditioner a year ago, we went through three different contractors before they finally sent somebody out that knew what they were doing. The first contractor was useless. One of the guys wouldn’t go into the attic. He said I have a problem with my duct thing. I told him to check him out but he said he doesn't do attics. AHS then had to send out Ace Heating & Cooling and their tech said that while the duct thing was fine, I have a capacitor that was out. He then replaced that and everything was fine.

Ace came back and offered to do a free service on one of my air conditioners, and then I agreed to pay for the other. While they were working on it, they determined on the second air conditioner that there was a part that was defective. They contacted American Home Shield to get that covered through them, and they did, and it worked out well. Other than that, I had a problem with my pool pump motor and AHS sent a company out that did a stellar job. The guy came out, replaced the motor, and he was in and out of here in 15 minutes. The pool pump worked great ever since.

American Home Shield is very professional and I've had very satisfactory service so far. So I would definitely recommend them to anybody. It takes the pressure right off. You don’t have to worry if you got the cash on hand if something happens. The warranty takes all that worry right out of that. When my furnace went out, it was freezing here so it was very important to get the heat back up. I was really desperate. I filed a claim online and it was very simple and easy to navigate through the website. It was very user-friendly. I was advised to expect the contractor between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and it went great. The contractor showed me what the problem was and explained it all to me very well. I was very happy. He was very friendly too. I felt very safe. I’m home alone and sometimes, it’s a little scary but they give you the technician’s name. Everyone that I’ve dealt with so far through American Home Shield has been great as well.

I called AHS on a Thursday and was told that someone would get in touch with me. I had two separate companies do that and both scheduled to call between 8:00 and noon. Both of their techs showed up and they were polite and conscientious. They solved my problems and it couldn't have been a better experience. There was one time however when somebody came for a claim I filed with AHS and I paid them $75. However, AHS said the repair wasn't covered so that was disappointing. Still, I've had a good experience with AHS.

I am in the midst of an awful experience with American Home Shield. I've been without hot water for 9 days with no sign of any in the future. This is a result of a hot water leaking profusely from my water heater. The serviceman came out within 2 days which was fine. His paperwork that he left with me said that there is a leaking from base and the cold side valve and that the unit needs to be replaced. AHS has chosen to only look at the valve issue and says they must make another visit for him to do that first. The serviceman cannot come back until NEXT week, making it 15 or more days without hot water. I have told everyone at AHS I have talked to that the water leaking was HOT water. They sound very sympathetic, but stick to their story about the valve. I presume that after the valve is looked at it will be another week before I get a water heater. THIS WATER HEATER IS 35 YEARS OLD.

Meanwhile this 75 year-old-widow living alone is heating water on her stove and carrying it to where needed. Not at all safe. Two officemates have had AHS. It took one 3 weeks to get a water heater, the other it took 5 weeks. That gives me little comfort. What is it with water heaters and AHS? For every service call I lose 2-4 hours of work, costing me greatly. This is a poor way to run a business.

This time the guy came out and told me that I have to remove the microwave in order for them to order the parts. All other times they removed and fixed. My microwave is still not working and I keep calling AHS and asking to speak with a supervisor. I'm always placed on hold, as I'm typing right now it's 62 minutes and I'm still holding.

I called 4 times - a supervisor has not returned my calls. They call me everyday to renew my contract, once I tell them I'm not happy I need to speak with someone they transfer me to customer care and hang up. I'm so disappointed in their customer service. I spent the yearly fee, and pay $100 each time and I only called them for one item and I'm still stressed. They tell you that they will replace it when you sign up but they make it impossible. There's no way they replace things.

I still have a broken microwave. PS. After 1 hour and 4 minute hold they hung up the phone on me.

We have used AHS in the past and would probably use them again given their overall ratings but I was doing my due diligence and exploring all my options. After requesting a quote they called multiple times a day. Also several emails later from them, I finally answered the call even though I did not want to purchase until I had finished my research but I thought I might hear what they said. The person on the other end went over what was covered, asked the questions about some of the items in and around our home - did we have a garage or a pool type thing. They gave me the pricing, said we just had to wait 30 days and asked for my form of payment. When I said I was not ready to purchase and I was comparing plans to get the best coverage at the best price he says, "Well that is what I am offering you" and then proceeded to act offended.

He then said (using a derisive tone of voice) that I could compare but they could only offer me discounts not service. He even named other companies he said would be cheaper. Now remember at this point I had not said I wasn't going with AHS only that I was shopping still when he has the nerve to say to me that I could go with another company but "I would remember this conversation" when it didn't work out. Now I won't cut my nose off to spite my face if I decided AHS is the way to go, I would still purchase. However, I said in response that I had not said no to the company but I would certainly not purchase from him. I said that I didn't like the way he was speaking to me and I certainly would remember the conversation. He started our call saying we were on a recorded line - I sure hope so and I hope someone reviews it.

After many fights and phone calls I got several AC units, and handler replaced. The local plumbers/electricians are not the best. Takes several service calls to get things fixed. Impossible to get toilets replaced, but I got it done. In the end you can fight this company and raise your blood pressure, but is it worth it? Not sure yet, will try American Home Insurance or Amazon next. Also, AHS wait time is horrible out af the Philippines. Nice people but slow.

I've been a customer of AHS for about 7-8 years. But within the last year something has changed. You cannot reach a customer service representative that speaks English as their native language. You wait on hold for 45+ plus minutes and when you ask to speak to a supervisor, you either get put back into a holding loop that never ends or you get mysteriously disconnected. At the end of November, AHS replaced a garbage disposal and we paid a $75.00 service charge. Today, when we had to go under the kitchen sink we discovered that the new disposal had been leaking for a long period of time. We immediately called AHS and were informed that since we didn't discover the problem within 60 days, we would need to pay an additional $75.00 service fee. Please bear in mind that this is a warranty company that only warranties their services & repairs for 60 days!

We actually spoke directly with the plumber hired by AHS that installed the disposal and they were SHOCKED we were being charged - They stated if we had been regular customers instead of AHS customers that would have repaired for no charge. We even tried to reach a supervisor by using the message function on AHS's Facebook page, but they would only redirect you back to the customer service number that puts you on hold and disconnects you. Will be looking for another warranty company as soon as possible. Realtors need to know what they are recommending to their sellers & buyers - a scam.

After calling and disputing they would not help us, the representative was very hard to understand and we asked to cancel our contract immediately because of our dissatisfaction. The representative said she will remove our automatic payment information and now they are constantly calling us saying we are past due, we explain this was cancelled 3 months ago and now we are receiving past due invoices through the mail. The lack of customer care from the customer service representative was very disheartening. We had to make three calls, and one time we were placed on hold for over 15 minutes. The second call we were disconnected and the customer service representative did not call us back. It takes 15 to 20 minutes for your call to be answered. I stated that we are predicted to have a freeze warning, and you tell us it will be 48-52 hours before a provider can come for the repairs because it is not considered an emergency. Heartless.

I normally submit claims to AHS over the phone and sometimes, their automating machine can pick up and understand. Sometimes it can't though and they have to transfer me to someone and I have a really long wait. One time, my main sewer basement was clogged up. AHS's contractor, Arnon Rooter came and found the problem. They didn't explain it to me well and then the problem came back. The contractor came back again, ran the snake inside this time and it was found that tree roots were on the outside and that was the problem.

Their guy did a very good job though and got everything unclogged and back and working. However, AHS did not cover the repair, so I had to come out of pocket to pay for it. I went back to the fine prints of my coverage and I could barely see. AHS needs to make what's not covered and what's covered a little bit bigger so the customers can see what's all really covered and what's not covered.

Also, some contractors that they send out are not good contractors. One time, I had a problem with my garbage disposal and the company that they sent out said they needed to put an extra plug on the new garbage disposal that they ordered. So, my insurance company went off of what they said. I called from when I was out here and they said that my plug to my garbage disposal is plugged behind the dishwasher. So there is no need for them to run a new plug.

They want me to come out of pocket, paying $250 for someone to install the same kind of garbage disposal that I have and then AHS will reimburse me. I asked why I have to pay that if they will cover it anyway. I wanted them to know that the tech ordered the wrong part and for them doing that, they're making me pay for something that doesn't need to be put in. I never got that issue resolved and I have a problem with that. My experience with AHS just hasn't been so good. The only reason I'm keeping them is for my heating and air. I'm looking to go somewhere else.

I called American Home Shield to send someone to check the whole house. I had an electrical issue where not all the sockets are working. An electrician from McCaa Electrical came and he found that one of the sockets got burned, so he fixed the wire. Then he checked the outlets on the porch, the living room, and two rooms, they were okay. When he went to the kitchen, he found that some sockets there are not working and said that his time is off and that it's already 5 o'clock and that he has to go back. I asked why, since he hasn't finished yet. I told him just to come back.

When I called McCaa Electrical, they said the work is done. So I told them my request is the whole house because I don't know which sockets are working and which are not. When I called them to follow up when is a technician coming, they said that I have to get another job order. They have sent a report to AHS that the job was completed. While they gave the technicians one hour to fix everything, they don't even know what's going on. I've been calling McCaa and most of the time they're not there. I called AHS and told them that McCaa is not answering, that it's always an answering machine. The rep at AHS said they left a message to McCaa but when I called them, they said there was no message from AHS.

When I called American Home Shield they said there will be a recall order and McCaa have to finish the job. AHS did their job because they told me the recall order and that the contractor has to finish the same order with no additional charge. In addition to that, a time limit should not be given because nobody knows what's wrong. A tech will come here at 3:45 and then he has to leave at 5:00, and then from their office to my place is a 45-minute drive. They should come in the morning so they have more time. Hopefully, they will do something, because I am frustrated as of today. It's the third week that we've been waiting and they're throwing fingers at each other. I don't know who's telling the truth. I'm disappointed because it's an electrical issue and we cannot do anything.

There was a problem with our dryer. The technician conducted a full evaluation of the dryer and he was very thorough. He was very knowledgeable of what he was doing, and he fixed it lickety-split. He also had a great attitude so we were very pleased. But before, we had an issue with our dishwasher. The contractor that was sent was a different company. Our personal belief is that they’re conducting fraud on American Home Shield. They’re ordering parts before even coming and doing a diagnostic. So we reported and raised the issue and eventually, we lost all confidence in them. Three times, they came out and just couldn’t fix the dishwasher.

The coverage of American Home Shield is great. But when it came to the repair of the dishwasher, even though AHS did a 100% replacement of all the parts three times coming over, it never worked. Dishes were coming out nasty. We got to a point in saying we didn’t trust it for help. We lost money for the dishwasher and we paid premiums to fix if something went bad. We ended up buying another one and we replaced out of pocket.

If American Home Shield is overpaying for the repairs, that’s always gonna be passed along to the consumers which means my monthly payments are gonna go up. Waste, fraud, and abuse hurts everyone. It hurts the company, and when it hurts the company, it hurts the consumer. And I’m convinced that the other company is a fraud with lousy service. And so, I made a formal request that AHS never send them. They sent a different company, A & K, and it was like night and day.

When Super Rooter Plumbing & Sewer started out, I thought I had a simple stoppage in my kitchen sink. But the young man ended up causing another problem. He punctured a hole in one of my pipes. It was located behind my kitchen cabinet, under my sink and beyond the walls of the other cabinet. So he couldn't get to it and he said they would be back that Monday to fix it. He told me not to worry and that they would take care of everything but then I didn't hear anything else from them.

It was a terrible experience calling American Home Shield and trying to call the plumbers. For nearly a month, we were going back and forth with phone calls. I don't know if there was a language barrier between myself and the representative at American Home Shield. But nothing was being done and I had no return calls. There were no solid answers either. When I asked what to do or what would happen next, they would tell me to call back in 48 hours. How many 48 hours did I have to keep calling back? That was all that I kept hearing.

Customer service can definitely improved, especially when you run into a problem that needs to be resolved. But this is the first time I've had a problem with this. I couldn't talk to anyone. When we asked to speak to a manager or a supervisor with American Home Shield, we never could get connected. Nobody could ever find a manager or a supervisor. It was very frustrating. We also tried to find their corporate number to complain but we couldn't find it. It was kinda bad. We asked one of the representatives and he was like, "For what? What do you need that for? I can relay the message." We wanted to be able to email or call somebody but we couldn't get that information.

But once the plumber actually did come back out and did the work, everything went smoothly. The owner of the company even came out with two of his guys. They had to cut the back of the cabinets out but they actually reimbursed us for having to get that repaired. It just took way too long to get it resolved. We couldn't use our kitchen sink. We were washing dishes in the bathroom in the tub and the water was leaking down to the basement. On top of that, I really didn't appreciate that, in the end, I had to pay another $100 deductible. I had paid once then I had to pay again. I had to put in a whole new work order. It was a little frustrating.

It usually takes the next day to solve a claim after filing. Recently, our plumbing got backed up and so, I filed a claim. AHS sent out On Time Plumbing and they snaked it out. They said there was some calcium buildup in there which could've been from years and nothing we could do about or foresee. The guy then cleaned it out and did a good job.

I just had a claim on a furnace this morning and I tried to do it online, but there was a mistake they had to clear up so I had to call in and do it. They contacted a local heating company that came out and fixed it already, so everything is good. The technician called me two or three times to ask me questions and told me what he did to fix it.

I went online and into my account then submitted a ticket with American Home Shield. It was for the washer as it was not turning on, and somebody got back to me on the same day. The first tech that came out looked at it and had the lid open. He said that there was no model number so he could not touch it and then he left. I was going to call American Home Shield the next day to let them know what had happened, but before I could do that, I received a text that American Home Shield was gonna send out another technician. And when the second guy came out, things worked out perfectly. He went in, got a model number and ordered the part that he needed. He then came out a few days later and placed the part in there. The washer started working then and it has been working great since.

It was a lot of work to get things fixed on my most recent claim with American Home Shield. They sent out a technician and he did the best that he could but then the issue didn’t get fixed. They then fixed something else and then I got another bill for that. It's frustrating. It was not efficient enough but it was better than nothing. They should also improve on computer recall. They don’t give you options to type in information, so they know what is going on with the consumer. I used to file my claims over the phone but it took forever, so I've been doing it online since. Still, when I have a recall, it doesn’t give me options. It doesn’t let me elaborate or tell me what is going on. Also, it seems that they have it set up so they don’t have to pay and that the consumer has to pay.

This is my third time with my refrigerator that didn't get fixed. AHS said that I requested icemaker but my icemaker is not even connected and I yet had a fee for it. If they are gonna provide a service, stop using loopholes so the consumer will pay. They should make it as simple as possible so they could fix our items. That’s the whole reason we get the home warranty. So, AHS will take care of it, not me take care of it. The service is there to accommodate my needs. Also, they should have maintenance on stuff that regularly breaks down. That way, I don’t have to pay out or give instructions.

We've had AHS for a lot of years and some of my experiences with their contractors have been bad, but overall, they're pretty good. Their contractors in Texas has been better than we've had in the past. They followed up and they were pretty good. It also takes no more than one week to settle a claim except for one incident which took several weeks. I had an issue with my oven back in the holidays and I had to follow up with the contractor quite often. But he ended up coming out and getting it fixed.

I usually submit my claims online but the online portal sometimes is very vague and there are a few options. For my last claim, I had to choose something but it was not specific. Also, sometimes, having a warranty is aggravating 'cause I pay for the coverage and then they don't cover certain things. But overall, having older appliances, it gives peace of mind and American Home Shield is reputable. They have gotten better through the years. We struggled with them quite a bit in Georgia but I feel like it's a lot better company now that we're using them here in Texas.

The furnace was not producing any heat and I tried turning it all the way down then back up again but that didn’t work. The technician turned the furnace off at the red power switch that completely shuts the whole thing down and then turned it back on. It rebooted and the suspicion was that it was a power glitch that might have got it into a funny state where it didn’t work. Based on that, I decided I probably needed to have a remotely controlled thermostat installed, so that I could check the temperature at any time I wanted to, and make sure that the furnace was working, even though I wasn’t at home.

When I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, the process was simple. I went right into the website, and I understood that I had to go through their website to initiate the process and I’m not supposed to just call a technician to come and fix it, and then get reimbursed. We had a small leak in our kitchen ceiling that was growing. We didn't know what was going on, and so we called in a claim with American Home Shield. They sent out a plumber and I told him that the leak was underneath the shower. I measured and the leak was exactly where the drain of the shower was. He walked upstairs, looked at it and came back down. He cut a hole 4 feet down and 4 feet away from where the water spot was. He saw a drain pipe rather than the actual bottom of the shower pan. He said that the shower was leaking around the seal. It just needs to be re-caulked and that was the pipe. His answer was for me to go back up and re-caulk around the edges where the shower meets the floor. He also didn't let anybody know that the hole needed to be patched! I wasn't very pleased with him.

I called American Home Shield the next day and they took care of the issue right away. A guy from Jim Woody called me and told me that he was gonna fix the hole. I would absolutely NEVER buy this "Shield" for myself. The only reason I had my home covered with AHS was because my realtor had the sellers of my house buy it as part of the closing contract. I had two experiences with AHS during the first year of home-ownership. The first, a garbage disposal, was actually pretty painless. They came, they charged, they left. The second, was absolutely horrible. My hot water heater was not giving me hot water for more than 5 minutes at a time and I put in a ticket to get it repaired with AHS in early January. They did not have any companies in-network that would service my town (30 minutes from the capital of the state). So I was tasked with finding a plumber that would jump through all the hoops AHS needed for him to be able to replace my water heater.

I found a GREAT plumber that was willing, and after two weeks of him trying to get ahold of them (two of the three phone numbers they gave me were WRONG) I called them myself and connected the call with him so things could actually move forward. He was able to come replace the water heater within days of getting the go ahead. This was early February. AHS let me go without hot water for a MONTH because AHS was unable to answer a phone. Fast forward to after the repair, I paid him up front and they were to reimburse me. I turned in what they said they needed from me the day after he installed the new water heater. I got the generic email saying the invoice was received.

A month without any contact had me calling again, by this point I have at least 10 hours on the phone with them for this project. During the latest hour phone call and hold session I was told I needed to send in another piece of information I had already sent in. I asked to talk to the department that could verify they had all the information they needed but was told "they could not transfer my phone call due to company policy." I hate to blame the people answering the phone for AHS, but they have clearly been coached to be as difficult as possible. From giving out false phone numbers and to lying about being able to transfer phone calls I am sick of this company. American Home Shield is clearly a company that just wants to pocket as much of your money as possible while frustrating you to the point where they hope you'll give up and just repair things yourself.

I have had them come out twice for the same issue, and they refuse to repair a leak with my HVAC even though I very carefully looked for an exclusion to leaks and found none. Their technicians say they can’t fix it because the entire system isn't completely broken. A smart business would fix it before it becomes more costly due to complete system failure. But of course their technicians report they fixed the issue when they didn’t. Thankfully I have their signed statements clearly noting the leak and their refusal to fix it. I also filed a complaint against them and it was closed out because they failed to respond. I’m now selling my house and this leak is coming up under inspection and I have to pay even more to get this resolved. I had a plumbing issue and Greenway Home Services needed to fix the thing in there and pull out hair. I have used AHS two times and both situations with the contractors were excellent.

I like making claims on the phone because I could ask American Home Shield a question and get them answered right away. Every time I’ve called them, though, it’s been a while to wait. They offered to take my phone number and call me back, and they did within the time they said they would. The washer stopped working and Angel did a fantastic job when he came out. They would have been out within 24 hours if I had been home so that was fantastic. The part was on back order and then AHS offered us a buyout. The company that came out also called us and let us know what was going on so they did a really good job overall.

The contractor they sent out knew what he was doing. He came right in and saw where the problem was. He fixed it and said I could give him a call if I had more problems. I noticed that it was cold in the house and the heat wasn't working, so I went over to the thermostat and tried to crank it up a little, but it still wasn't responding. It said on the thermostat, "No AC power," so my husband tried to check the fuses and the breakers. We tried to do everything we could on our end and when we were not successful, I called American Home Shield. It was on a Sunday and I thought for sure that it was gonna be a couple of days of waiting, but they scheduled us and someone was out the very next day from Total Air Care.

Brandon, the tech, was very nice and very knowledgeable. He was in uniform and clean and he explained everything that he was doing. He replaced the thermostat and found a couple of other things that may have been an issue. He also checked all the units. However, I had a problem the next day and had to call them back. They came back that day and fixed it. Everyone was really nice. When I had to call back, I asked if I had to call American Home Shield again or just call them directly. They said, "No. Within 72 hours, it's not a problem," and they had someone out within two to three hours. Everything has been working well so far since then.

We also had a problem with the refrigerator at some point and someone came out for that and it was a good experience as well. It took a little longer to fix, but it was because it took longer for the parts to come in. The customer service has been great whenever I call American Home Shield. Everyone is skeptical at first because you read so many bad reviews about how long it takes and that customer service is poor usually, but I haven't experienced that yet. Every time I call in, I speak to a person. At work, I'm online and it is very user-friendly and it makes it easier. I just pay a deductible and save a ton of money and deal with professional people.

Our garage door wouldn't open and I tried to file a claim with American Home Shield over the phone but I ended up not being able to complete it because the call dropped when I was on my cell phone. So, I did it online the second time. Navigating through their website was straightforward. They had all my information because we have set everything up. They pulled up my customer number and everything auto-populated. I told them what I needed repaired and then I got a text not too long after that it was already processed and that a tech from Cactus would be calling us which they did to set up the appointment.

The tech took a look at it and he said that the circuit breaker was burnt out. Then he also changed out the plastic wheels to metal wheels, so they would roll quickly and last longer. Now, everything is operating perfectly. We had to reprogram our garage door openers and the tech showed my husband how to do it. Then when I got home, my husband was able to do exactly what he said again and they both worked. Yesterday, we replaced a bulb because the tech said that the bulb that was in it previously wasn't a good light. He said that it would cause the circuit breaker to burn out again. He suggested the LED light and we were able to go to Lowe's right down the street from us and pick one up with no problem.

American Home Shield is doing a good job. When we first moved in the house, our water heater busted and then we also had our AC unit go out two weeks after that. AHS sent a guy right out and he had to go get the part but he got it fixed that same day we called out. The turnaround time was quick. The longest claim we had was the one for the water heater because we had damage inside the house due to water flooding. That took a long time because the wall had to be cut out and the carpet replaced and it involved multiple different companies but everything still worked out and all we had to do was our deductible. We appreciate what American Home Shield is doing. We're definitely seeing the use of it for the money we spent and where we intended it for.

I had two, back-to-back claims with American Home Shield, and the most recent one was good. When the garage door wasn't working, the day-to-day operations were not good. The technician for the garage door was amazing. He came from San Antonio and told me exactly what time he was gonna be here. He showed up right on time. He was courteous and fixed the garage door promptly within an hour. And then, with my oven, the technicians had to order a part. So it's not completely done. I haven't been able to cook in two weeks. I knew it needed a part, so I knew that was gonna take a bit longer to get fixed. But the techs were on time and were kind. They let me know what was going on with everything and I had a great experience with both of them.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield was very easy to do. The reps are nice when I call in. I don't have to look up my account number, they can just pull up my phone number, which is good. When I filed the claims, within 10 to 30 minutes, somebody called me already and then that person set up an appointment for both of those claims. It's easier sometimes to call AHS and it's also faster for me. Their reps are prompt in answering. Everything's been great with AHS.

The issue began with a cracked toilet on the master bathroom on the main floor of the house. It flooded downstairs so we turned the water off. I called American Home Shield and they set Davis Plumbing up to come out. Aside from the toilet issue, I had also had a few other little issues that I hadn’t called American Home Shield on. One was the cold water filter underneath the kitchen sink that had been leaking and that I had turned off a couple of weeks before. I also had a spigot underneath the laundry room sink that had been dripping. Then a day before Davis Plumbing came out, I noticed that my hot water heater was not giving more than about five minutes' worth of hot water. It was sort of a cascade of things so when they came out, they were looking at those four things.

While Cory, from Davis Plumbing, was in the house, he also noticed that my interior shut-off valve was so old and antiquated that we couldn’t get it to move. So if I had had a break inside the house, there would have been no way to turn the water off. So Cory spoke with American Home Shield and they authorized the new interior shut-off valve for safety reasons. So Davis Plumbing has done everything and they’ve been quick to come out. They have not quite finished the job but only because I’m waiting for new flooring to go down in the master bathroom before they put the new toilet down. But I had other people pull up the flooring to get things dried out and Davis Plumbing has been great to work with.

However, the only reason why I use the old-fashioned phone customer service to file claims is because I have never been able to get an online account to function. It would never let me in even though I followed all the directions stated online. My Wi-Fi and my computer work fine too. Then on my very first experience with American Home Shield a few months back, it took about two hours before I got the first person on the phone. It was very disheartening. Also, although the lady I spoke with was doing her very best, I knew English was her second language. She was obviously reading off the script and it was very hard for her to understand what I was explaining. It was one of the situations where something was lost in translation because she wasn’t quite understanding what I was talking about.

We finally got it resolved but that conversation was 45 minutes on the phone trying to explain. I have no problem with somebody having English as a second language. But it would have been nice to have had somebody with a little bit better understanding of English to be able to translate for her very quickly so that she could learn about what we were talking about faster.

But my last few experiences have been much better. Even the English of the people picking up the phones is much better. On this particular time that I called American Home Shield, the customer service was great. The phone was picked up right away and I was very pleased with their response. I’m glad that American Home Shield is paying more attention to their inbound customer service phone lines. I know it’s very old but people still call in. They might also wanna look into why I can never get my online account setup though, so that I can do an online repair request. But all in all, everything went really well.

90% of the time, our experience when submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been good. My wife works out of the office so she just goes online to file a claim. It’s easier that way. She doesn’t like sitting there and waiting for a line to open up. She goes online and punch, punch, punch. Then we get the confirmation from the company that they’re coming out. They also make a phone call and verify the time they’re coming. We communicate that so that we get a response. Everything is pretty good on that end. But sometimes, American Home Shield would send somebody that do the minimum amount of work. I guess sometimes, the vendors don’t make the money so they don’t want to put a lot of effort into the work. They do the minimum that they can get away with if I don’t keep on top of it. I gotta push the issue sometimes.

Recently, we were having issues with the freezer and it was leaking. We had to shut our water off and it messed the line up a little. One of the sinks broke. it was like when everything goes, it all goes at once. We got it fixed though and Premier Appliance did all right. Just like in any business, you get some real quality people and then you get the learners, the ones who really don’t want to be there. But if that happens, we just send them back and get us somebody else. We’ve used American Home Shield since we’ve had the home so that in itself will tell that we’re okay with them.

We had been opening and closing the door to the microwave for weeks and it had been buzzing. Also, sometimes the power would be off, and we'd open it, press buttons, and open-close the door, and it would come back on. It wasn't really frequent and it didn't set off alarm bells until nobody was using it one day and I heard it buzzing. So I pulled the power plug and called American Home Shield. Keep It Cool was sent out, and they were awesome and great to work with. The gentleman who came was extremely accommodating. We were working from home while he was there, and he gave us space and politely asked for attention when needed. He took the microwave apart, and we found a door switch that was showing to be shorted out, so he ordered a new door switch. That took about a week to get delivered.

He came back, and when he installed a door switch and put everything back together, it worked while he was there. But that very evening, we went to use it, and it completely shut off. No buzzing, no fizzing. So, he came back out to look at it and he took everything apart. He was there for hours testing all the components and all the guts of it out. He hadn't determined anything else was wrong, and when he went to plug it back in to test it, it started blowing out the circuit breaker. So he had to keep running back and forth and he tried different things. He kept resetting the breaker from the garage and back. But no matter what he did or what he tried, he couldn't find anything else that was shorted out.

I've repaired things before, and although that's not my forte, I got the general idea. You'd have to go wire by wire to find if something was not right inside the control panel. It's a little beyond a repairman's skill set, more for an engineer. So at that point, he packed it up and left, and AHS contacted us about getting a replacement for the microwave.

I just picked out the replacement from their online store today. However, all our kitchen appliances came with the house we bought and they are the same, but AHS doesn't offer that brand, so we had to kind of debate. Do we wanna take the money and then put a big investment in getting a replacement that matches? But it's an older appliance. Or do we wanna take a look at what they've got and maybe upgrade a bit with something that looks the same even though it's a different brand? We just bought the house and we're gonna live there a long time, so maybe we start moving in that direction. Meanwhile, their payout would've been almost about what it would cost to replace the exact same microwave, but it did not include the disposal, which is not a big deal. But it didn't include the installation either, as well as hanging that thing up there.

My wife and I are both technical and we submit claims online. Anything we can do on the phone or online without having to break time off to do those things works better for us. Phone calls take forever. AHS's website, however, is semi user-friendly. It’s very functional, but it lacked a lot of instructions. I wound up having to call them a couple of times because we had a little confusion with the instructions they explained. Neither the email they sent us nor the website itself explicitly said that it includes the installation or disposal. But before I made an investment, I wanted to make sure that it did.

AHS's contact center provided a call back function, so when they told me that their wait time was about an hour, I took that option, and that worked great. They called me back, they announced that they put me first in the queue, and then they had me with somebody in less than a minute. That was helpful. But maybe they could provide more instructions when you call, and put that in print. That would help AHS and their customers. Nevertheless, we're happy with the resolution. Everybody we talked to was very friendly.

My toilet was leaking and it had a stoppage in it. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and the guy from Air Pro Master came out and told me that there was a crack in the toilet and that we needed to replace it. He didn't work on the stoppage at all and just said that he would be back. He came back in a week with the toilet that he put in. He also snaked through the toilet for about half a day. Overnight, the toilet worked, and then, it backed up again. So, I called back in and they eventually came out again. The plumber snaked through the toilet and the same thing happened again. It was good for a little bit and then it stopped again and it wouldn’t flush right. I called back again and told the contractor how it was.

American Home Shield called and said that they would have the contractor come out and we were gonna have a senior plumber and he was gonna have a camera with him. He would check and find out what was going on. It was the same guy who has been coming out all the other times who came out but he had a camera with him. He sent the thing down and he told me that there was a pipe across my sewer line. I asked him how he could tell that it was a pipe. He insisted that he knew it was a pipe. I said I needed it fixed and he went on to say that he has to go back in and call American Home Shield and get the extra equipment that he needed.

The day after, I got a call from American Home Shield and the rep was basically threatening me that he would be glad if there would be a second opinion, but if they said that it was the same thing, I would have to end up paying for it all. So, mainly, after going back and forth with him, he was a jerk. I told him to just do it. So, I went home and I kept telling him that I didn’t have a lot of time. He kept trying to make me ask questions. I have a friend whose husband got a plumbing company and while he doesn't do stuff like mine, when I told him what was going on, he told me that it will be the first he had ever heard of a pipe going through the sewer line. We have lived in this house for 29 years and this trouble only started within the last couple of years. So, he said he would see what he could do and he proceeded to go to Elliott. It's a plumbing company that he always refer to.

Two of the top people from Elliott’s came out. They had a camera with them too and they went in. When one of their people came out, he told me that it was not a pipe but calcium buildup on the pipe and it was causing it to clog up. They said they would be back on Friday and they would auger it through and get it taken care of. It would be under $200. So, I called American Home Shield back and told them what was going on. When I talked to the first person, I asked for a supervisor. This other lady then came on the line and she made me think that she was a supervisor. They weren't even paying attention. I didn’t even know that they understood what I was talking about. I finally said that I needed to speak with their supervisor and she said she would get me a supervisor.

So, this man came on the line and I explained everything. He asked if I called in ahead of time to get an okay for another plumber to come out. I told him no. He then said that they couldn't pay for this other plumber. I told him it was fine but I wanted my $75 back that I paid to get the other company out. He said he could do that. I said that was fine and that was where I left it. I'm assuming that I got my $75 back. I've had to call back somebody before and they’ve always been very good about that.

I was livid about the whole thing. It was horrible. AHS is usually good and I have had good luck with the companies that have come out for anything that I needed to do. I've had the service for a number of years but this was crazy. When I called, I told them that they needed to understand that Air Pro Master wanted $1,400 to come out and tear out my wall to get the pipe out of the sewer line. I don't know whether the company was ignorant or whether they were trying to pull a fast one. That’s up to AHS to decide but I was not happy about the whole thing. We had a problem with the light of a fan and it was not a good experience either, but AHS took care of it. I've always had a fairly good experience with them. I have referred people to American Home Shield before but if it's just with this experience, I wouldn’t refer anybody to them.

However, it can be a little challenging trying to go through the process, but that's the bureaucracy they have. I normally submit a claim online. But AHS needs to develop an app and it should be much more user-friendly with a better user interface. With that user interface, it also needs to provide us a better user experience. The website is very kludgy. It's not intuitive.

Even so, the techs who came for the garage door were fantastic. I got to meet their owner and his name is Darryl. Also, we had a bad refrigerator. But we're actually waiting on them to authorize a new part right now. That goes into a black hole and we don't get any communication from them. They should do a better job of letting us know the status and letting us know what's going on. But they've been a better partner. I would tell others that they should definitely use American Home Shield.

American Home Shield was part of the package when we bought the house. We've had it for a couple of years now and everything's been great, so far. When I submit a claim, I do it online. It's faster and I have no problems navigating the website. Recently, we had an issue with our hot water heater. A technician from Lone Star Water came out and checked it. There was a code they could put in to override it and start it up again. But the override they had done lasted only for a day, so they went ahead and ordered the replacement part for me.

There was also a time when techs sent out by American Home Shield got our microwave fixed. They also worked on the air conditioner a couple of times. Overall, AHS is a great company and I'm happy with the technicians who have been out at my house. If someone would ask me about them, I'd say go ahead and do it. They have a low service fee that they have to pay if somebody comes out. It's great compared to what they would have to do without the service.

The plumbing was backing up so I pulled out the coverage and was pleasantly surprised that it was an element that was covered. It was a weekend, so dealing with it was challenging. A neighbor tried to help me snake out the line but he was unsuccessful. The person American Home Shield first assigned wasn't gonna be able to come out until Thursday. I called American Home Shield and said that that wasn't acceptable, so they worked to find one who would come out that day. I appreciate the fact she put me on hold and called a couple of people, and then came up with a service provider who could come out quicker. The gentleman who came out was really helpful. I paid a $75 service fee to clear my line and then when he hit obstacles at the street level, he told me I had to call the city. It turned out that it wasn't my problem because it wasn’t on my property. It was on the city street level. So, then, the city had to come out and take care of it.

Also, the blower wasn’t working. When McLafferty came out, it turned out that the issue had something to do with the fuse. My husband guided the contractor to what exactly was wrong and the contractor had to replace the thermostat. The contractor was really nice and everything was taken care of in one appointment. I've been with American Home Shield for 20 plus years and I've noticed that their service calls have been better. The last couple of times have been awesome. Even my husband said they've come a long way since the beginning. But one time, my hot water tank was leaking. It started with the rust. That tank was there since 2005 so we got a lot of wear out of it. I called American Home Shield and the rep told me that it was not covered. I asked her nicely, "Do I have to wait until the tank goes?" She came back and told me that they were going to do it but I gotta pay the service fee. I said I didn't have a problem with that and she said, "And if it's not covered, then you do know that you're responsible?" I wasn't pleased with it.

By the time the techs got here, it was leaking more but they caught it just in time before my cellar got flooded. The service was excellent and I'm more than pleased with it. I've put AHS' name out there to a couple of people that asked and I also had a sister that had them. She was not happy with them so I told her to give it a second chance.

Our fan wouldn't come on and blow the heat through the house. The electricity was going to the fan but it wasn't moving so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. So far, I've used the two different methods when submitting claims to them. One time, I've called them and a few times, I've gone online, which I prefer. It's fast and so easy. I just log in and hit a button, and then answer why I need service, hit submit, and somebody calls me. The tech that AHS sent out assessed the fan and realized it was a motor on the fan that went bad so he swapped out the motor with a brand-new one. He did a really good job. He had to change the heat pump the last time he was here so we really like him.

Their techs have always been very nice and professional, super friendly and always walk us through what they're doing, why they're doing it and what needs to be done. I've been dealing with American Home Shield for our last three houses and I've always stuck with them because everything has been great. When our dishwasher was leaking, they had All Better Appliance come out. But when the technician came, the dishwasher didn't leak for him so he didn't do anything. The dishwasher didn't leak since.

Overall, I'm satisfied with AHS. Their contractors were great except for Greenway who came out for our heating and air unit. They were not good people. They were horrible and they didn't know what they were doing. They replaced parts that didn't need to get replaced and they lied about it. This claim issue happened in December when it was cold and we had no heat. And this went on. Greenway supposedly fixed the problem ut in the spring when we turned our air-conditioner on first thing, it didn't work. Greenway had to come back out. They said we needed Freon. They put Freon in in December when they got the heater fixed, but it seemed all the Freon leaked out. We then had to pay for the Freon. In the end, we had to buy a new unit because of their mess up.

Also, we call American Home Shield now when we have a claim. We don't do it online because of our bad experience with our heating and air unit. There's still an investigation regarding this and it has been going on for over a year now. We put a new fridge out in my garage, but it wasn’t turning on. I thought that I blew a fuse, so I went to the fuse box and flipped the top one over and it buzzed back. It was the only one that I looked at that was tripped. It said AC, so I called the ANT Mechanical guys out. They said it tripped and they asked if I turned my AC on. I said that we replaced our thermostat recently. We were hitting cool, auto, heat to try and get the heat to come on, but it wouldn’t kick on. A new thermostat was finally put in and the heat kicked on, and so, the heat was working great. ANT Mechanical worked on that as well.

When the tech went outside, he did his testing and he said that it was not a breaker box. He said some things about the wiring, so he got in and he said that it looked like it was a compressor. He said the fridge was an older unit and they are going to replace it, but they haven't yet. It has just been too cold and they said something about ordering a unit. I’m waiting for it to come in.

We bought the house last summer and we got the American Home Shield home warranty with it. About a month in, our upstairs AC unit went out. The claims process has been great, however, the only thing that surprised me was how much I had to pay out of pocket. In my mind, I thought, “Oh you get this, something breaks, they fix it, you pay the $75 fee,” but there was actually more. With the unit downstairs, it was around half the amount. I was surprised excitedly the second time but surprised frustratingly the first time. The first one was over 700 and I was bracing myself for 700 again, but they said 365, so it was better. I didn't wanna be caught off-guard since I was in a budget for it, but they said that it was the price. Either way, it was a better bill than if I had to replace the compressor myself.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and they have been very good. The price was good as I was paying $40 for each visit. But now, I pay 75 and the service is worse. I don't have hot water now. I asked for help, then they assigned the contractor. That guy came and he said it has to be replaced. No decision was made. Then I called again, and again. But he fixed for a while. Today, it broke again so I called back. They sent another technician. The guy said again that it has to be replaced. AHS is offering to give me $359, where the cost of the heater is $301 and they are paying the contractor $58 for labor. Still, I have to pay them $550 for the labor. When I looked at Lowe's, the price of a heater is $400. I also don't want that contractor because those guys will be getting this heater from AHS, and I don't know what they are putting, because eight years ago they put in a new system and it's not working anymore.

I don't want to use them for repairs of my heater. They sent me a contractor who I don't trust, and I told them I don't want that contractor. But they said I had to take it and they could not change it. The people who are working at AHS are really nice but the regulations that they have probably don't allow them to be nice and helpful to customers. Eight years ago, I had replaced my hot water tank and I paid only $50. Now, I have to pay $550 because there are some regulations. I have to pay for the removal of the old one, for re-piping and for the labor. AHS is paying for nothing now. Then when I asked why, they said it's because the contract has changed. The prices have gone up and the services gone down. So, what is the point of having them? I'm very unhappy and I'm thinking of leaving.

And if they can fix it on the spot, they do it. In our case with the leak, the contractor had to order a part. They said when the part arrived at our house, give the plumber a call and he'd come back out and fix the leak. The biggest inconvenience was waiting for the part to arrive. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and I had the contract process started within an hour. It was very easy. There was water running in the tank and the contractor replaced the inner workings. He identified the issue and fixed everything within an hour. He worked in a very timely manner and was very courteous, professional and caring. It was my first experience with American Home Shield and it was a positive one.

My husband noticed a leak in the bathroom. We have a warranty with American Home Shield, and when we checked, the issue is covered under our plan. We filed that claim on the phone, and it was simple. Then the contractor called and made the appointment. It might have been a day or so before a guy came out, and he was able to do the repair. It didn't take long at all, and he did a good job. Everything is good and working fine now. I'm glad that we have the AHS warranty. The little monthly fee we pay every month is worth every penny, so I really appreciate it.

I’ve had American Home Shield for several years now and I only had two times with them that I was not happy. There was one time they took 14 days to get out and fix my refrigerator. It was a technical problem and once they assign a vendor to come out to me, it goes into the computer and it’s hard to get it out. It took them an expert. I won't do this that way anymore. So, they couldn’t reassign me somebody else and I waited a week. I called and I called and I called. Then it was almost 14 days before they got the contractor out.

My refrigerator was a Maytag and it's very expensive. It was not old but its part couldn’t be found so American Home Shield said that they would give me an allowance up to $1,600. However, they don’t pay for the food and I didn’t know that was not in the contract. I didn’t appreciate that. The freezer stayed frozen for a little while but there was a point where I couldn't eat the food and it has already been thawed out. I had to cook it, especially the steaks, all on that day which I tried to do and gave it to my little puppies. But then AHS compromised and said that the next time I have a need for something, I don’t have to pay the $125 up. I might have had a little more than $125 worth of food mainly because it was meat and fish, so I was pleased they made some compromises.

Then my microwave was not working because of some burnt out little, old bitty thing that took the very nice contractor 5 seconds to find. On the day that he came out, communication was excellent as I got 3 phone calls. A few hours before he was to arrive, he called again. Then he also explained things. I always submitted my claims to AHS over the phone and the quality of service provided by the representatives was good. People are not trusting like they used to be but I am still satisfied with American Home Shield and overall, I would recommend them.

A breaker had flipped in my home, but I didn’t know that we had two breaker boxes. So, when I kept flipping the breaker in one box, it wasn’t working because there was another whole breaker box that I needed to go find. Some parts of the house had electricity, others didn’t. It especially affected us because the whole master bedroom also didn’t have any electricity. And then, we didn’t have any Wi-Fi or TV because the front room was affected as well. It was really inconvenient for people who had online school, which was me. I submitted a claim to AHS which was an easy process and they got me squared away. The only thing that I wish is that they have some things that would constitute as an emergency so they could try to get someone out the same day.

When we purchased our home in November, I closed on November 12th and wanted to stay in my new home that night. We were all excited, then we got here and the heater didn’t work. It was an extremely cold night. I called AHS to get some help, but they said it would be a while. I explained to them that we were moving in, we were all in the house and there was no heat. But, it still wasn’t constituted as an emergency. The parts took a while too. Thanksgiving messed everything up and it was just Murphy’s law at that moment--whatever bad could happen did happen. The furnace was finally fixed in the second week of December. However, for the most part, I’ve gotten my service the next day. Also, the contractors have all been good.

We had switched off our breaker box and had the air conditioner switched off. It wouldn't turn on and it wasn't blowing cool air. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. The website navigation was really simple. However, I have the protection and somebody should come out for a relatively low cost. I was afraid that we were out of Freon and that my warranty would allow me to get the refrigerant at a discounted price. However, I found out that AHS only covers $10 and it could be $75. I understand the warranty not covering the whole thing but 50% would be nice. Still, the technician who came here was a nice guy and was very professional. He came on time and did a great job as far as diagnosing the issue. He made sure that the compressor was on and we found out it wasn't, so that was quick and easy. He also told me about some additional services they do as far as cleaning the duct and the system and went about his business.

They couldn't be there that day or, sometimes, it is the next day or it takes several days. Other than that, they have been okay. We had a plumbing issue recently. The techs pinpointed the problem and got it fixed. Another crew came out and fixed the wall and the ceiling, and it is all good now.

Also, the interaction with the contractor went well. They communicated the arrival times, then the identification of who was going to arrive. We were having an issue where the hot water didn't last very long in our shower. We thought it was the hot water heater. So we made a request to American Home Shield. It was on a Sunday, about midday, and by 5:00, they had called back. So I thought that was pretty good that we were getting called back on a Sunday. The appointment was made two days later and I didn't have any issues with that. Aaron's Plumbing and Heating came on time. In majority of the time, if you call about a hot water heater, it is probably because you don't have hot water. It was an unusual call for a hot water heater but the guy went straight to work and figured it out.

I had a good experience with this particular group but when we looked on Yelp, they didn't have good reviews. Those tend to be a commonality with the groups that American Home Shield contracts with. They tend to have very poor reviews. American Home Shield should to reach out to vendors that have good reviews and maybe give people an option of vendors that they would prefer to at least have a first try at. If American Home Shield gave two options and I reached out to the first vendor but their next available schedule is five days away and my second choice's is two days away, I can decide whether I wanna wait three extra days for my preferred vendor or if it is really urgent and I just need somebody out ASAP.

But I haven't really had too many issues since this claim. The hot water is not perfect and the issue is a little bit different but it's a lot better. The technician had also told me that if there were any more issues or if it didn't work, to submit another request and let somebody know that they were the ones that had been out. But I really don't feel the need to have somebody else come out and certainly not if I'm gonna be charged another $125. It's working good enough.

Also, once the motor gets hot, it makes a high-pitched noise which irritates my ears. When the technician from Summer Breeze Heating and Air was sent out by American Home Shield, I told him about it and he said that it sounded like the bearings are going out and that it might need a new motor. He also said that the whole unit probably needs replacing because it's hot and it doesn't look good. He was supposed to get back with me two days later and he never did, but he did well nonetheless.

I had big holes in the air intake and there wasn't really anything the tech could do. He just recommended that we get a vent with a filter on it and cover up another hole because what was coming in was the insulation from the attic. He had offered to put some foam filler in the areas that needed to be covered to prevent all the insulation coming in, but I said that my husband can do that. There wasn't anything wrong with the heater, but the opening for the air intake was never covered. Nonetheless, the guys that came out were so fast in giving me a call. I had a bad experience with American Home Shield last summer. Our air conditioner wasn’t working and the contractor they were using was horrible. They didn’t fix it and they never would come back to fix it anymore. We waited a week and then we finally asked American Home Shield to give us a cash-out. The problem was the people that they had originally sent would not give them a report saying how much it would cost to get it fixed. We ended up having to pay out of our pocket to get somebody to come and fix the problem. And American Home Shield was supposed to reimburse me, but they never did. That kinda aggravated me.

However, with my most recent claim, the contractor did everything possible to make sure that the job was exactly right. My ceiling fan had completely died. I filed a claim online since it's quicker to do. If you call in, you're gonna be waiting forever. You can't get anybody. Then, I got told that it was submitted through an email. They also told me that within 24 hours, I'd hear something. So the next day, I heard something. The techs who came out were very nice, professional and knowledgeable. They checked everything in the fan to see what wasn’t working. And then, they finally came up that the motor was broken. Because we had another fan exactly like the one that died, they just picked up the part from there. Since the replacement, the fan has been working great.

Your policy states in 24 hours someone will come and diagnose it, then they will call it in for repair. So by the time diagnosed to phone call to contractor is at least 36 hours. So in my case if I called I would have a basement full of water and damaged furniture they wouldn't pay for but they would snake the drain and I would be responsible for cleanup. I had it resolved in 2 hours with little damage and I am out $250 snaking cost they won't pay. The policy is a sham. Not worth the paper it is printed on. You could have a furnace go out in the winter and freeze to death before they would pay for it to be fixed.

Updated on 05/09/2019: I have had to use AHS 3 times 3 different jobs in 3 months, first was a stoppage problem (plumbing was stopped up) took 3 days for them to get here so water drained in a day but still gurgled, finally they send a 1 star rated plumbing company. Very unprofessional beat up truck. No name. Ran water in 1 shower. I have 2 and flushed toilet maybe 3 times. I have 2 toilets. Technician said he could not create problem and left, he did not even roto rooter the drain, said he would call back. They had to have a camera. He never called back. AHS never called so finally I called AHS. They said they could have them do a complimentary roto rooter, what? Complimentary? When he should of done it on the service call! He never called or came back.

So I wrote to Consumer Affairs and AHS did call and said they would send another plumber which was another 1 star rated company, I cleared drain out myself, the other plumber could not get here until a day or two. I already took time off for these plumbers. Second call my garbage disposal went out. A simple job, AHS sent out yet another 1 star plumber. He installed it but again an old beat up truck, I figured how can you mess up a garbage disposal, it was installed. No problem. My concerns were I needed to change my home warranty company. I tried calling customer service to ask why do they send out only 1 star rated contractors. They told me they don't look at the reviews..

3rd call refrigerator went out. AHS gave me a 1 star contractor. They tell 3 days. I call AHS. Now I am so very upset. I get someone in the Philippines... I say I want to talk to someone in the USA. He hung up on me.. I call several contact numbers for customer service all that were the same recording how to place a service call, I get someone one on the phone and I ask to talk to a supervisor. They proceed to tell me they are the customer service and all they can do is send another tech out.. Tech comes 1 1/2 star out says my refrigerator is fixed with 1 part and no it isn't! Now going on 5 days. Now food is all spoiled rotten, my refrigerator is still not fixed. I call AHS and get disconnected again. I am fed up! This company needs to be investigated. They show as top 10. Please help..

Original Review: I went ONLINE (boo) to request service. I needed a plumber for stoppage. I put in the request. The contractor called me, said earliest time would be next day between 12 to 4 pm. I looked up the plumbers reviews and they had a rating of 1 1/2 star rating...OMG! Well I was gonna give it the benefit of the doubt. (I already paid my $75.00 service fee.) Well next day I wait from 12 to 4 pm...no plumber. So I call to complain that I had to take off work to wait on these people. AHS rep. told that plumber was showing on the road. He put me on hold, contacted plumbing company. They said he was on his way. I asked rep for AHS what his name was. He spoke a foreign language and barely could understand him. He did not tell me and hung up on me.

Well plumber finally gets here, does not create the stoppage. I had not used water in 24 hours with 1 flush only, plumber flushes toilet and runs shower for about 2 min. Says it was fine. I said NO it isn't. It flooded twice in 2 weeks. Toilet gurgles and then it floods, he did not even roto rooter it. I am very upset, I WILL be changing to American Residential home warranty or Total Protect. This is not right. I missed work and nothing was done. Now I know why plumbing company has 1 star rating, and a big negative for AHS as well.

We've been with AHS for 15 years now and submitting claims with them has never been a problem. Now that my house is 15 years old, we’re starting to use them a little bit more. We filed a claim over the phone to American Home Shield for our water heater. Whenever we showered, the water wouldn’t stay hot very long. In a day and a half, APC Plumbing came out. I was okay with them in the beginning. They only looked at the lower heating element. They replaced that and we had hot water for two hours. After that, we didn't have hot water again. It took them a couple of days to come back. They told us that the issue was electrical, but then it turned into our breaker was being thrown, and that was why the water wasn't staying hot. They came on a Tuesday and when they came back on Friday, they told us that we were gonna have to put a claim in for a full water heater.

American Home Shield gave us the okay, but they weren't gonna cover over $500. It was the weekend so I couldn't get a hold of APC. On Monday morning, when I called and said that I have digested the fact that I have to spend over $500 with a home warranty, APC upped the bill to $704, which was $200 more. One of my old coworkers who is now working at a plumbing company told me that I should not be paying $700 with a home warranty and that it was a robbery. She told me the verbiage to use when I call American Home Shield. She said that I have to use cash-out and to make sure I got the clear before we did anything so everything was covered.

By the eighth day that we didn't have hot water, I wanted to speak to an AHS manager because I got disconnected twice. I was fed up. When I finally talked to a manager, he told me it could take a whole day to get a cash-out response, which would put me at day 10 because somebody dropped the ball and didn’t take care of the situation the day before. At that point, I was done with APC. I didn't use them and I ended up using another company. That company came out the next day and they charged me $1,190. I then had AHS reimburse me and I got $984. I was mad at APC for wanting to charge me $700. American Home Shield should reconsider using them. We went without hot water for nine days. We had to boil water for dishes and I have a son that we took to my mom’s house which was thankfully only 10 minutes away. So far, it’s been great having hot water.

It’s been practical for the last couple of years.

I talk to them over the phone to file a claim and when we had an issue with our furnace, they sent Hansen Mechanical out. I’m by myself but the technician was a very friendly guy so I felt very comfortable with him and his partner in my house. They were easygoing and friendly people. The furnace was not blowing hot air and he seemed to know exactly what was happening just by my description of the issue. He was able to make the fix and the furnace is working fine now. Everything went great and I was extremely impressed with Hansen Mechanical.

My heater kept on shutting down and I thought something was wrong with its controller. At first, it started to heat up and it sounded like the gas was flowing. Then suddenly, for less than a minute, it shuts down. The house temperature dropped and the heater started trying to open up. Then it shut down again and can't blow out the heat.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the reps were very assistive and helpful to me. Then they got someone to show up in about 24 hours. I wish it could be shorter than that though. The tech was very professional and did a very good job. He checked and then replaced a couple of parts, including the controller. The heater has worked normally after that. I hope AHS doesn't raise the price on me but so far, I'm happy with the service that I got.

We were having ductwork issues and we didn't have any heat on one side of the house. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and they sent out techs from Roger’s Heating and Air. The techs assessed my ductwork issues and fixed them. While they did a good job, they have to come back because the other side of the house has an issue. Also, one of the ducts that they replaced isn’t blowing out very much heat so they have to look at that as well. Other than that, I like how I can pay right on their website. The technicians sent out by AHS are super professional too. I love the quality of their work.

My washer wasn’t coming on and I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield over the phone. They did a great job and they did what they said they were gonna do. They got a repairman to come out to the house. But it took the service company about a week to come and that was a problem. They came in, they fixed it then they left but the washer started doing the same thing of not coming on that same night. So, the tech came back and he did something and it turned on and ran a cycle but then the power went out.

I called them last Thursday and I told them what happened. They said that they would have to order a part. I asked them to give me a day when the washer is going to be fixed but I haven’t heard anything from them. I was being patient with them but I don’t even know if they’re planning on coming back out to fix it. Although American Home Shield got someone out to the house, they haven’t fixed the problem so I’m not very satisfied at this point. This experience has been bad and I’m not happy right now.

I had two claims with American Home Shield within a week. One was for the garage door opener and the other was for the lights in my kitchen that would not come on. I usually submit a claim by making a call on my line, then get an auto-attendant and place the call that way. It's easy for me to do it and I have the number programmed on my phone. I've used them for 15 years. The contractor called within 24 hours of getting our ticket and were on time. They gave us the morning schedule from 8 to 11 but my husband said that they got here closer to 8:00 AM.

The contractors were very professional. My husband said that they looked at both of the switches but didn't make a mess. They said there were some loose wirings and took care of it. They made us aware of the little things that we may want to do and willing to offer advice. Everything was working when they left and my husband was happy. He called me once it was done.

For the garage door opener, the contractor told that the problem was a board. I liked that he gave me some advice on how to secure my garage door since we were concerned that we weren’t home, and didn’t lock our garage door. They didn't have the board needed so a temporary fix was done so we could open and close the garage door. We were able to use the wall control to open and close the door and that was while we waited for the part. He called us two days later to let us know that the part is not in. On the third day, the part came and he gave us a call to let us know he was coming out. He came out, fixed our problem and we're good.

We've been at our home for 18 years and never had a bad experience. American Home Shield always sends someone out every time we call. We've not had anything major because we take care of our system which their requirement. When a guy didn't come out one time for our air conditioner, they gave us another vendor who took care of our problem. We've been very happy with AHS. They save us money. We make a point to read our contract, so we know what we're getting. We've even referred one of our family members to them.

American Home Shield's claim process is pretty simple as long as you know your contract number and all of the necessary information. We called in a claim for the microwave on a Friday and JTL Services came in on a Monday. They were amazing. We have a baby and they were very quiet and tried not to wake her up. And they were quick and they fixed it. They did a great job. However, we called them out a few times for our claim on the furnace. The contractor fixed a couple of quick fix things, but we just went ahead and bought a new furnace out. The companies that are coming out doesn’t always seem like they're fixing the problem. They're just kind of getting us to shut up.

I filed a claim over the phone for my washer and dryer and for my dishwasher. The first person that I spoke to was okay but when I had to call back, the guy that I spoke to didn’t know what he was talking about. He kept telling me that none of my stuff could be under the warranty because we had moved it into our new home. I knew it wasn’t true. We’ve had a home warranty for years and I kept telling him that I needed to talk to his supervisor. It also sounded like he was foreign and wasn’t even from the States, and that he didn’t wanna mess with it. I even told him that I had a copy of my warranty right there and it was covered. In the end, I just hung up. I called back and the person that I talked to helped me right away. I told her what had happened and she said that the representative was nuts. But I have had coverage with American Home Shield for about 12 years now and that was the only time that has ever happened.

Mr. Appliance of the Valley came out and they did a great job. The guy that they sent out knew what he was doing and was quick at being able to do the repairs. He had to order some parts, which took about a week. But once they got the part, he came right in. I never heard a bunch of banging and he cleaned up after himself. The quality of the work that was done was excellent too. When we first moved into the house that we are in now, I had a couple of plumbing problems and the guy that came out then didn’t know two cents. But generally, I’ve had good experiences with everyone that AHS has sent out. In fact, the time with plumber guy was the first I’ve ever had that kind of experience.

My dishwasher was leaking, but I thought it was my garbage disposal because it wasn’t working. I told the lady from American Home Shield that I couldn’t tell which one it was. I had backed up water that was in my dishwasher that has spewed on to the floor. She said that she was gonna put a claim in for either one and that I wouldn’t have to pay but just the one time. She wanted me to do it during the hours I was at work, but I was busy and couldn’t get off work. So, I told her that if it would be okay that I could schedule until Saturday, and I would just keep an eye on the water.

I came to find out that it was the actual garbage disposal that had a problem. So, when the serviceman came, he tried to turn it. He said that I probably just needed to turn it and see if it would work because it wouldn’t come on with the switch. He then said that I needed a new switch and that he had another one out in the truck. It took him 15 minutes to put it right in. He knew exactly what the problem was, and he was quick and thorough. I told him whenever he came that the water hasn’t backed up like it was before where it was spewing out the dishwasher, but there was some water in there. He said that that was fine, as long as it wasn’t coming out. He also told me that if I had any other issues, to call them and they would come out beforehand. I've been with AHS for a good year and a few months and I would recommend them.

He said that there wasn’t anything mechanically wrong with the dryer, and he left it up to us to fix it. We had to purchase a part and then we had to climb on top of the roof to do that. Maybe if they had asked us to check that, the tech wouldn’t have had to come out to take a look at it. That was something that maybe over the phone, we could have diagnosed. American Home Shield is a great outfit to work with and the vendors that they choose are all terrific. I prefer to file claims online, but I usually do it over the phone because I’m always more comfortable talking with someone. We submitted an online claim for an HVAC system that wasn’t coming on and there was no talking with anyone until South Placer Air called. They got the referral and gave a window that I could choose from. They were jammed and they couldn’t get out here the day I called. It was chilling and cold and after one day, they came when they said they would be here.

They came right on time and the excellent contractor told me what they were going to do. Some parts had to be replaced and they had them on the truck. We had other contractors that looked at our range, said they needed a part and it was two weeks for that. When they came back in, they said it's the wrong part and there were two more weeks. Finally, when they got the part, they couldn’t schedule. It was six weeks before we had the range operating and that was a little nuts. On the other hand, South Placer Air was fast, efficient, clean, neat and pleasant to deal with and everything’s working fine now.

The AHS reps are fantastic because they communicate and I appreciate that they’re quick to respond. When the contractors arrived, they needed a new hose but they didn’t have one with them, so they used duct tape on that leaky faucet. There were no complaints from the tenant, so I'd assume it went well. But personally, I had a problem with paying my bill with them. It was confusing. I paid it in full and upfront, but it went into monthly payments, so I got a credit. I had to call and get it all resolved. I was supposed to get another statement in the mail for the full amount put back on a yearly billing cycle. I have not received that yet. But that’s the only complaint I have with AHS.

They just say, “This is broken and it needs to be replaced.” Since the repair, my water heater runs perfectly. My wife and I did a lot of research and looked at reviews on multiple platforms before choosing a home warranty company. For the price and the coverage, American Home Shield had two other close competitors that we made a decision between, but it was easy and convenient to look and navigate through American Home Shield's website. They clearly listed out all the things that they covered. We have been with them for about two months now and I had to make my first claim in the first week of owning the home. It was the third day we owned the home when we discovered the problem, but there was no hesitation or no resistance in fixing it. With no questions asked, they had someone out the next day.

I submitted a claim for some plumbing issues and some stoppage that was in the main out of the house. It was extremely easy to submit the claim and the easiest thing that made the website so simple to use was it was a matter of clicking. It was about five clicks and typing a quick description of what was wrong, and they broke it down in categories. After that, I got a notification in about 15 minutes of who was gonna be at my house.

The company they used personally, Williams Plumbing Service, called me that evening and let me know that the tech could be there as early as I would want him to be. He was at my house at 7:00 AM and he fixed the problem in about an hour and a half. The tech was very nice and he let me be involved and showed me what was wrong and what the problem was. The previous homeowners had put lots of grease down the drain, but ever since he cleared all that out, everything drains throughout the house as it is supposed to and everything has worked great.

We're having a lot of trouble with American Home Shield. It has taken my husband calling them over and over, sometimes waiting on hold for two hours, and then he gets a hold of somebody but the call disconnects. There was one time where they told us that the electrician said there was no electrical problem in our house, which was not true. I had to get in contact with the electrician and that took a few days, but he confirmed that there is a problem. It turned out that we had some damage in our fuse box, and we were told that the wire to the house from the town utility was baked by the sun and had completely corroded. Water had been getting in and has been causing damage in the fuse box. He told us that the whole thing needs to be replaced.

However, American Home Shield isn't going to cover it because it's water damage. The problem is that the water damage was not something that we did, but it's from normal wear and tear on the house. We're trying to get those straightened out and it's practically impossible. It doesn't help that the reps I spoke with read from scripts just like anybody else. It's annoying because we have a problem and we need to speak to a real person. I need to talk to someone who understands what I'm getting at and will talk with me about the real issue. There seems to be a conflict between the fact that it's normal wear and tear and that it's water damage. While the contractor that AHS sent out was great, I don’t even know if I'm ever gonna be able to talk to anybody over there about my problem. At this point, I would not renew it.

We had a damaged condominium due to a flood from a broken pipe upstairs. We just got the condominium last April and immediately, we noticed a wet floor below the air conditioner. We called American Home Shield, then they sent a guy out and he found that the issue was a clogged-up drain pipe, and he fixed it. A couple of months later, after we had the flood, we were told that the air conditioning system was not any good, although it was working. So we called American Home Shield again and we had the same company come out. They looked at it and said that it was working, but it was not efficient and not working well. The tech said there was nothing that they could do.

Subsequently, they had to tear out the air handler. They went upstairs and looked at the compressing unit on the roof and when they touched it, it fell apart. It literally disintegrated. So, we had to buy a new air conditioner to the tune of $4,600. And because we previously had somebody out that said everything was okay, we knew we weren't gonna get anybody to cover the cost of that. Overall, the technicians were great and competent people, but I'm questioning the value of having the warranty service when I've ended up spending a whole lot more money for services that I thought would be covered.

They did not try to rip you off so I know exactly what I'm getting, and then they call me when they get through it and check on me a couple of hours later, to see if it’s working properly.
