I had two different sinks that were leaking and they were causing damage to my lower vanity. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was easy and the experience was very good. Once I filed the claim, the contractor was able to come within a week. I've only done two claims and both were approved with no problems. Everything was fine with the contractors and I have recommended American Home Shield.

Our dishwasher's lock got stuck and we couldn't close it, so I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. The process of doing that was really easy and I got a response almost immediately. The contractor came out in less than a day and they were able to work with my schedule. The quality of work that they performed was excellent. The tech fixed the problem as well as what was causing it. He explained these very well and he was very knowledgeable, so that was very good. The dishwasher is now working great.

When my heater went out, I sent my claim to AHS online, and navigating through the website was easy. They said that the contractor would give me a call in 30 minutes, and then he was here 30 minutes later. The contractor fixed and changed a couple of wires and then left. Having a warranty is valuable. My AC went out and I don't think I could pay for the whole thing. I'd tell my neighbors to get American Home Shield.

The left side of my stove wasn't working, and the guy sent by American Home Shield came in and fixed it. He was nice and polite, but he didn't speak very good English. Discussing what the problem was over the phone before he even got here was hard. Also, I don't like it when people give me a window and tell me that they're gonna be here between 2:00 and 5:00, and they call me at a quarter to 5:00 saying, "I'm gonna be about 35 to 45 more minutes". Plus there was a problem with a different burner after he left. I called him back to come back, and he never called me back. So, my husband fixed it on his own. Nonetheless, the reps are good and the website is better than most.

First time trying to get service due to a stoppage. AHS sent a dishwasher repairer out. Made me take a day off work for that guy to tell me to get a plumber. Plumber came out, took another day off work for this guy to make it worst. They refused to ask more than the original plumber plus one other if they could meet on a time when I'm not working. Failed to fulfill obligation to fix sink. This whole process has taken over a week and hours and hour waiting on hold. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
I literally called the most reputable plumber in my town right after I got off the phone with AHS and they said they'd come over to take care of it the next day at the time I need. So AHS refused to meet obligation contractually to fix stoppage because I refused to take a 3rd day off from teaching. They kept repeating, "It's in your contract. You must make the accommodations for it". I read the whole contract. All 6 pages. NOwhere does it say I must always be able to be home for repairs between 8-4 M-F Which is the only times I was given. Though it does stipulate AHS' obligations to fix my stuff to which they failed to accommodate.
Good afternoon Charles,
I most certainly understand your concerns regarding the delay in service to repair the stoppage and the technician sent to complete the job. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

We have had this warranty for many years, and have not needed to use it. When we finally needed it, it was during a heat wave in June. Our A/C went out, they could not seem to get a company to respond in a timely manner as this is a busy time. It was very difficult to reach customer service and when you would finally get through each person would give me a different answer.
So finally we were approved to use our own company, the company we selected told AHS that it needed to be replaced. Instead AHS opted for the cheaper route to attempt to repair it. Which was approx 800.00. So the repair was done and the A/C then blew the part out as the A/C was bad and needed to be replaced, so 3 weeks later we finally got them to approve and replace it.
The only good thing was we used our own company, but the customer service was horrible and definitely not all on the same page. We now received our renewal and it is double the premium it was the years past. When I call they say their prices went up. Although if I go onto website and select the same services to sign up, it is back at our original price. So, if you end up using AHS just know that after actually using their services then you will have to choose a new company. This is horrible, and sad that this place was actually referred to us.
Good afternoon Valeri,
Your concerns are understood regarding the Consumer Affairs review. I would be glad to speak with you and address your most recent experience to have the repairs completed.

We need to get the house rekeyed because we just bought it on Saturday and closed. So it was safe having all of the locks and everything, and everybody have keys. My wife submitted a claim to AHS and she did it online. The response time was great. The guy who came out was really nice. The service was quick, easy and done over with. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody. Hopefully, I won’t have too many things to bother them about, but if I do, I definitely have the confidence that they're gonna take care of it, based upon the first experience I had.

I submitted a claim online and it took two days before a contractor came out but he took care of everything within the same day. He was friendly, quick and professional. Even before he left, he asked if he could check anything else. So far, everything is working fine.
Kimberly,

The heater stopped working and I put in the claim for the service. I went into the web, made a report to American Home Shield and I immediately got a contact number for Liberty. I called them in the morning and they were super nice. They were super quick in finding somebody to come over on the same morning, which was a surprise to me because I haven’t had a good experience before. It was my first time with Liberty. The person came out at 12 o'clock and did a very professional job. He got the appliance fixed, troubleshot the cables and figured out that it was the control board. He went and bought a new one. He installed it in an hour and everything was working. He tested the air conditioning and the heater, to check if nothing was broken. That was very professional and he had a very good attitude and communication. He explained everything he was doing and that was a very good job.
I got a repair done in the past with American Home Shield. I have two air conditioning units in the home and the other one stopped working. Somebody came in, fixed it and left before he tested it completely. By the time the guy had left, I realized that it was not working. So, I called him and he said he would come back. Nobody called back. I called them multiple times and they never answered my calls. It was always an answering machine. I struggled to get AHS to call the contractor as well but they never got it rolling. After a while, AHS gave me another company to work with. It was the same story and I complained again, and I just gave up. I fixed it myself. I was in the process for one or two months and I got fed up. I thought that this was gonna be the same, but I was highly surprised that it worked so smoothly and so well with this other company. This case was excellent.

We call American Home Shield when we have a problem, then they tell us who they're gonna send out and when we should expect to have the service done. If I call in the morning, I’ll have the contractors usually in the afternoon. Recently, the pipe underneath the sink had broken open and water was going everywhere. We called in the afternoon and the guy said he would come if he could before the day was over but he ended up coming first thing in the morning. When he came, we told him what the problem was and he fixed the problem. When we bought our house, we had another company, but we weren’t too pleased with it. It was free with the first year of our homeownership, but American Home Shield was cheaper than that one. We’re very satisfied with American Home Shield and we will renew them.

We recently had 2 issues. Our air conditioner was not cooling, and then our heater kept recycling. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield via the phone. The tech came out the next day. He was very professional and thorough. He told us our air conditioner’s 20 years old and we had no Freon and there is a leak in the coil and it was gonna take 10 pounds of Freon, and Freon is going out next year.
Freon is $80 a pound and the only thing they’ll cover is $10 a pound. So, it was gonna cost us $700 just for the rest of this year. So, we elected to go with a new unit. We had a 10 SEER and the new unit is 14 SEER. They do not cover anything on the new unit, and we are not pleased with that. Not one penny. So, we’re out $8,000. Now, we’ve had a water heater that they put in five years ago, they covered the new water heater, which we were very pleased with. We had a thermocouple go out on the new water heater and they covered that. But on this one, they covered zilch. As far as I’m concerned, American Home Shield slurps.
I just sent you an email.

When my dishwasher was broken, I called American Home Shield and made an appointment. The guy from Ralph's Appliances came out when he said he would. He was very good, polite and very knowledgeable. He explained what the problem was, and what looked like the cause of the problem. He was then able to fix it. So, I was very happy. When it was broken, I had to wash the dishes by hand, and it took a lot longer time. So, it was very convenient to have it repaired. Now the unit is working perfectly. The whole thing worked very well.

Everything was fine. Wats Plumbing came out the next day -- they are gonna be my normal plumber now. The owner came out, so it was all good. The only thing is that American Home Shield cannot find a sheet rocker to come to fix my wall. So, I gotta contact them and set something up because they were talking about me doing it instead of somebody else, but I'm not gonna do that. But as far as the plumbing and stuff, it was a good experience.

I submitted a claim for my AC unit to American Home Shield. Doing it online was easy and the tech from Royal Flush AC and Heating came out on a scheduled time. The contractor was really professional and patient. He liked explaining some of the problems and solutions. He had to come out a few times. Previously, it took a while for him to diagnose it. But, he was patient with it, and he followed through. He was able to get it to work to a certain point and then it stopped working a couple of weeks later. It turned out, recently, to be that the compressor needed to be replaced. Right now we’re waiting for him in submitting the full report and for AHS to decide what we are gonna do.
Dealing with American Home Shield has been more challenging on the resolution part than the actual technician that came out. It’s not a timing thing. Let’s say it takes $1,000 to replace a compressor, and 1,500 bucks to replace the entire AC unit. But, there’s no sort of logic behind we can pay out 500 bucks out of pocket, and then replace the whole thing. So, that part is a little frustrating.

My washing machine would not cycle and was just holding water. I submitted a claim to AHS online. I wanted a space where I could provide more information about the problem. Still, the site was easy to navigate. Thereafter, I called a few times and one of the plumbers said that they had no availability. I called AHS directly and told them that I have an emergency. I explained that the plumber they contract with couldn't come quickly enough to see me. Their reps found somebody out of their network and took care of my issue. Their techs arrived when they needed to and were very professional and friendly. Because of the age of the washing machine and from all the years of it becoming wet, they couldn't repair it. They ended up having to replace my washing machine and I was very satisfied with the way the whole issue was handled.

It was Saturday when I filed the claim and by the following Monday, they were able to send a repair company out. That repair company was very courteous and they did a good job. Both contractors were extremely friendly, answered the dumb questions I had asked, and they did a great job. They explained things and cleaned up after themselves. It was a good experience.
Before the repair, we didn't have the ability to heat the house. But luckily, living in San Antonio, Texas, the whole deal with the cold front is very often. So, we were okay. I've had AHS for five years and all the experiences I've had with them had been positive. I only have used them three times in that timeframe. But every time I've had to use them, they've been great. I've been with American Home Shield for a little less than a year now and my experience with them has been fantastic. Once, I had a problem with my furnace. I submitted a claim with them and they immediately got me in contact with a local furnace repair company. That company was gonna come out that afternoon, but I ended up having them come out the next day. When they came the next day, they immediately found out that there was an issue with the furnace. They called American Home Shield right away, told them what the unit was and its efficiency level, and American Home Shield said that they would be sending a new one out.
The new unit, which actually had a little higher efficiency level than the unit I had before, came a day after that and the repair company installed it. The whole claim was crazy fast and I didn't see a single bill except for the $75 deductible. But while AHS did a like-for-like kind of thing, which made sense, it would have been cool if they had an option where I could pay more and have the ability to upgrade. I've already recommended American Home Shield to two other people and they recently purchased a home warranty from them.

Water heater is covered by AHS the company I pay monthly plus service call fee $75. 1st call Friday 3/29 - 45 min call to put a service request & take $75 service fee...ok right? 1st plumbing contractor calls to tell me next appt available is Monday 4/1 w/no hot water?? Not acceptable! Contractor tell me nothing they can do & to call AHS again to have another contractor sooner. What a pain to call them again?!?! Called AHS again...another 45 minutes! Another plumbing contractor will contact.
Received a call from APC plumbing. Great right?!?! Rep. scheduled me for the next day yayyy! 3/30 8-12 woohoo. Took time off work waited till 11:30 am. I call the contractor. Left a voicemail. Then, called AHS again. SMH another 40 min! Rep. told me that request was canceled. Why? APC plumbing said that they called me to cancel because they don't work on weekends. Huh? First, of all I didn't get a call from APC. This is not the business company I want to work with, that basically lied ohh heck noooo! So, rep kindly left them a message and sent email. I waited 4 hours & no call. Guess, what I did? Yes, I called AHS again! (Did I say AGAIN?) This call took around 40 min. Basically, told me the same.
I asked if they have any other contractor? She can't cancel this service request until they find out what happened? Why didn't they show? Oh and this company APC plumbing doesn't operate on weekends! LoL... I asked rep to cancel that company and please put in service request for another company. No! All the plumbing contractors do NOT operate weekends. WTHeck. So, why did APC plumbing rep call me on Friday to schedule for Saturday. I asked her about my work time loss due to their negligence or contractor's negligence? She SAID talk to them! Ok, I asked... What about $75 service request fee? I still need to pay that. WOW. Very RUDELY interrupted and talked over me. Warning - DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! APC Plumbing shame on you too. You will get a call from me & -0??? from me! Time loss on phone calls, stressful, and my loss of work!

I had a plumbing blockage and my experience in submitting the claim with American Home Shield was horrible. I couldn't get them to understand what I wanted. I called over the weekend and I was told that they would expedite it, but I didn't hear from anyone, so I called back and they said, “Oh that wasn’t expedited. I’ll put you on hold. I’ll expedite it now.” They did that four times. I asked to speak to someone in the United States and they put me on hold and they stuck me with whoever spoke the best English. I could still hear them in the background and she was definitely not from the United States. When I asked to speak to someone in the United States, they were supposed to put me through to someone in the US, but they did not. I was so furious and it wasn’t even funny. I was point-blank lied to by whatever country it is that takes our calls on the weekend and in the evenings.
When you have sewer coming up in your showers, that is an emergency, but American Home Shield didn’t have anyone that could come on a weekend. We were not able to shower, use the toilet, and run water. We couldn't run the washer and the dishwasher and I was to leave on a trip. American Home Shield had previously sent a plumber out of Springdale who I would never have in my home again. He was rude and condescending. He didn't fix the problem and he tried to fish me for another $350 by saying that he needed to re-plumb underneath my bathroom sink, although it was not where the problem was. I had sewage coming up in my showers after the guy came.
I had to file another claim and I had to pay $82 to get Drain Masters to come back out, which made absolutely no sense to me. It was a previously existing condition that AHS did not fix. I told them I was gonna turn them, American Home Shield and the people from Springdale, in to the Better Business Bureau. We are up to renew soon and it was really making me wonder if I should stay with American Home Shield or not. It was that bad of an experience. Nonetheless, Drain Masters was wonderful. Weyland came in and he ran the machine all the way into the pipes in my house and took care of the problem, whereas the other guy didn't. Weyland snaked it from the opening in my bushes out to the road and so far, it seems to be fine.
I am saddened to hear that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

With American Home Shield, there are a lot of things that aren't covered. You look at the plan trying to see what's covered, and then when it comes down to what really is covered, it's not the same. I've submitted my claims online and over the phone, and doing it over the phone's fine with me. But my experience was not good. We had a problem with cold water not coming out and it is still not fixed. The contractor told me there was air in the piping, so he did something, and then it worked for a while. It was fixed a week or two, but now we're back to not having cold water again. Also, it's so hard for these stupid visits since the contractors won't work on the weekends.
The first people that came were terrible. They just walked in there, looked at the thing, and said they couldn't have a tile moved. And then, they said they could only assist us in the morning. I told AHS to get me another person because it was not gonna work. And so, they got another agency that would come out in the noon to five window, and that was much better. They were good.

So far, making claims has been pretty easy. I've done three different things and except for one of them, they got resolved in the first week. The garage door recently would keep going back up, and it was hard to get it to come down in one push of the button. The day I called AHS, they sent someone out and it was fixed. Another claim was the fridge and that took a couple of times out since they had to order parts and come back, but that was pretty good, too. And the other thing was an AC tune-up, and that was pretty smooth. The fridge guy was hard to understand, but he worked good. The garage guy was in and done with his work so quick. Neither me nor my wife got to talk to him, but it got fixed to where I no longer have a problem so I’m happy. American Home Shield has been good with me and I encourage people to use them.

I've had American Home Shield on and off for many years. So far, my experience in submitting claims with them has been good and I’m happy with them. I usually like filing claims over the phone, so I’m sure that it’s all happening. Also, if I have any questions or if there should be any issues, I can make sure that these are covered. But the one negative was that some years ago they dumped me and I assumed this was because there were too many claims. I wasn’t happy about that, but then they took me back a couple of years later.
Recently, the heater wasn’t reaching the temperature that it was set for. The boiler was shutting itself down and apparently there was some leak. The contractor, United Air Temp, was sent out. They knew what was happening, but it wasn’t clear exactly what was to be done. The contractors that I’ve come into contact with have all been good. If I had an issue with a contractor, AHS was willing to send somebody else, and that worked for me. I would recommend AHS.

At first, I called American Home Shield to do their spring HVAC check as they were offering a $75 spring check on HVAC. After I schedule that, my furnace has not been running right. I got electric bill for $519 and I work out of town every week. So, the furnace was running the time that I was out of town. It was running in the auxiliary mode which means that it's just cooling off of the electric and not from the furnace. So, I called AHS back and they put in a second work order so that they could not only do what they needed to do with the HVAC outside but also fix the furnace upstairs. They sent out someone as soon as I submitted the claim. I was out of town that Monday through Thursday so they couldn't come until Friday.
The guy who came out found that my furnace had a cutout in the top of it where someone probably before had put a piece of insulation there. It had blown out the piece of insulation so it was only heating the attic. It wasn't heating the rest of my townhouse, which is a two-story townhouse. He patched that and seemed to do a good job. Two days later, I turned on the heat just to make sure it was working okay and it came on. It warmed up the whole place but then I looked at the thermostat and it's still working in the auxiliary mode. So, I've had it off since then. They're coming back on Monday to look at it again. So far, the service has been good.

The water heater started getting big streaks going down it. So, I called them about the water heater and I said, "Well, seeing the plumber's coming for that, I'll have them check the bathroom and I'll also have them check the kitchen sink for me." However, the contractor said, "Nope. All mine that is saying, it says water heater only and that's all I'm doing." That guy had an attitude. So, American Home Shield had to send somebody else out, and the second guy who came out was excellent. He explained everything about the pressure with the water coming out of the sink and everything, that there was a crimp in the line somewhere, and he told us about the toilet, and he fixed it. I was pleased with him. American Home Shield worked with me to schedule, and the first contractor came out two days after, while the second came a day afterwards.
I have had American Home Shield for the last nine years and I haven't had any problem, aside from that one. Since October, I've also had them out here plenty of times. Just before Thanksgiving, my oven, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, and dryer went out. So, I've used them and I've been very happy with them. I'm very glad that their warranty to cover all that stuff. I have recommended them to quite a few people.

I am very satisfied with American Home Shield and they have been very positive. In fact, I have four houses with them and there had been occasion here and there where we had to have a callback, but it hasn't been to the extent that I hesitated to put more houses on because we have rental properties. Then, when I had to submit a claim, I called American Home Shield. But, the rep who took the claim had a lot of difficulties understanding what I wanted. She finally got it straight though when we saw the ticket with everything that I told her.
A contractor contacted me within 24 hours. However, the initial contractor I had was poor but they had terminated him. He came out and he seemed kinda lethargic. He stayed maybe five minutes and told me that he had to order a part and come back. He also said that he’ll do the other work when he comes back with the part then he left. He claimed that he went back and told AHS it was fixed, but he never did anything. AHS didn't know because he said it was checked off and he never told them he needed to come back. We made the assumption that he was going to come back even though we waited a month.
So, when I called to ask AHS when he was coming back because we told him he was gonna get a party come back and they said he hasn't checked off it’s finished. Then, the second contractor that AHS sent out was excellent. He gave us all the information we need regarding what he was doing. He also told us what we needed to do and that we had 60-day callback, which I thought was always 30. But he said it was the company would extend it to 60 days because of the issue we had initially. Since then, everything works out beautifully.

The rep figured it out within minutes and then that was it. She gave me the number for me to call to schedule the time frame. And then the other company was already calling me to ask what time they could come in.
The contractor was very quick. As I opened the door, he introduced himself. He had his uniform on and his tools. He said, "Where do you need me to go?" So I showed him exactly. I had maybe 20 minutes that I had to leave because I had to go to work. But I had other family members in the house. He was like, "Well, it depends what it is. Let me open it up and see." Once he figured it might be one of the sensors, he pulled it out and started to clean it. He was explaining everything, which was nice too, because I wanted to know exactly what was going on. And then, it actually worked. Basically it was just dirty. He was able to clean it right away, screw it back in together and then it started the heating right away. I discovered my water heater leaking late in the evening of Thursday, March 14th. I contacted AHS and waited for a call from the service provider. I received a phone call from the plumbing contractor on Saturday, March 16th. The service call occurred on Tuesday, March 19th at which time it was determined that I needed a new water heater.
American Home Shield authorized the replacement on Wednesday, March 20th. I was notified to call AHS to authorize additional charges of over $350 which I did that evening. I contacted the plumbing contractor that same evening and was told that AHS was ordering the new hot water heater and that it would be sent to a local plumbing supply. I contacted AHS on Monday, March 25th to inquire about the status of the water heater that they had ordered and was told that it had been ordered and was in route and that the plumbing contractor had been sent shipment tracking information.
When I didn't hear anything from the contractor, I called them on Wednesday, March 27th to ask whether they had received notification about the delivery of the water heater. They informed me that they had received no information about the shipment and had no tracking number. They told me they would contact AHS and get back to me. They called back and said that the water heater had been delivered to a local supply company at which point, I scheduled an appointment for the next slot they had for installation on Saturday, March 30th.
Today, Friday, March 29th, I received a call from the contractor to tell me that when they went to pick the water heater it wasn't there. When I asked what had happened, I was told that it had probably been SOLD. The contractor told me that they called AHS and had arranged for another water heater to be shipped directly to them to avoid any further trouble or delays.
I called AHS and was informed that all the customer service person knew was that a water heater was being shipped and would be available by Wednesday, April 3rd! It will be THREE WEEKS on Thursday, April 4th that the water in my house has been shut off and I don't even have a scheduled date for installation for my new water heater because the contractor will not schedule until the water heater has been delivered to them. I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield for my washing machine. The problem started in January. It was not working properly and it needed to be fixed. They sent someone out in just a few days. However, by the time he came out, the machine was working. He thought it was doing what it was supposed to do. However, it wasn't working properly so he came back in a day or two and he ordered a part. He came back within a reasonable time when the part came, and he put that part on. And then, I set two washes and it was still doing the same thing. I called back and the tech came back within a reasonable time, and he determined something else was wrong. He told me what part he would have to order. After that, they started taking a long time. I haven't heard anything from them for two weeks so I called the contractor to see what was happening.
The lady from the contracting company stated that they were waiting on AHS to approve the order. I said, "Okay." After that, I waited for two more weeks and I’ve never heard anything. So, I just decided to call AHS myself. I spoke to the first line of contact and she said, "I don't see anything on your order form that they’re waiting on an approval or something," She did whatever she was supposed to do, but I was really upset at that time. I've been dealing with AHS for some years now. There have been times when I shouldn’t have gone back to them. But I did just to have a warranty because they were good at doing most things. But when it comes to replacing things, they would fix things till you can't fix it. They could've replaced it five times by the time they finished the fix.
I’ve also dealt with them before where I had to wait for almost a year for a hot water tank. They pieced it back together till they couldn’t piece it anymore. So in talking to the lady from AHS, I said that they should accommodate me with something because it's been too long about the washing machine. She let me talk to someone else. I explained to the next lady what was the going on and she was very accommodating and they ordered the part. She told the technician to see exactly whatever was the problem and she told me she was supposed to defer the $100 although I got to check and see if the tech has an idea. She did provide me with one more service, so that made me happy. At least AHS tried to rectify a mistake that they made. The man finally came out to fix the part and I haven't even used the washing machine since then. I do recommend AHS but I tell people the pros and cons and I tell them about my experience too.

My clothes washer went bad a while back and when American Home Shield sent out a guy, the gentleman did not have a good attitude. He came and looked at my washing machine for a couple of minutes. He then told me that I have been putting in a little bit too much soap in this type of machine, which requires very little. I told him that I put in a full cap of detergent and that it was what I have always done in my machine. He said that when I do that, the soap gets into the bearings and dry them out, and eventually, things go bad. I said that I would pay attention to that from then on. He left. When he made a report, he told AHS that I have been putting in too many clothes into the washer and it ruined the machine.
I waited for a few days and I didn’t hear anything. I called AHS and I was told that I was rejected. I overloaded my machine and they would not be covering that. I told them what he said to me and they said that they were not gonna do it. I told them that the guy didn't even look at the machine. So, I demanded that a second person come out. AHS made a big deal and I had to go through supervisors until I finally got one who said that they will provide me with a second opinion but I would also have to pay the $75. I was happy to pay that because I have trouble figuring out which the problem was. I called two other clothes washer people and asked if there was a way for them to determine whether or not I put too much clothes, which I didn't. At that time, I was single and so, I didn’t. Both guys said there was no way to tell that.
AHS finally had another guy come out and he determined that the machine was a little over seven years old and the part that attaches to the drum on the inside is like a flywheel and it spins. It wore out and it’s normal wear and tear. When the guy sent in his report, they immediately ordered new parts. However, it cost me $75. I don't want him to ever to come to my house again.
A few months later, my dishwasher caused a $60,000 damage in my house. I had to have a technician through AHS come out and take a look at what was going on. Right after the guy got here, I walked in. He asked me if I had any water come out. I said no but I got mold on the side of the dishwasher, so there must be something leaking. We needed to figure out what was going on that caused that and how bad it was, so I can determine if I'm gonna pay for it myself, or have my insurance company pay for it. So, he unscrewed a few screws, leaned in and said that he couldn’t work on it because there was too much mold back there, which I could accept. As he was doing that, I realized this was the same guy. He did his little evaluation and said there was too much mold.
I called AHS again and told them that I asked them not to ever send this gentleman and his company back to my house again. The rep said that they don’t look at anything. I asked him if there was no way to manage whether or not they would order the technician back, out of all the people in my area. They said they would make another note of it and hopefully, they would pay attention. They eventually sent me out another guy, as soon as we got to the point where the mold was gone, and we got the problem solved. I never should have had to pay the $75. The technician was not very competent and he was asking me how I could afford my house and things of that nature.
When they finally did the dishwasher, they charged me twice but they reimbursed it. There was a problem with the collection of the money. I always authorize the $75 once the job is done. If the guy doesn't show, I don't owe them. The other day, I got an email saying that AHS was processing the $75. That was the day before the guy was due to be here. I called and asked why they were doing that. They said that the email just went out but they didn’t go ahead. I checked my bank and they have not done it.
Recently, when we connected the door, the door started running again. So, there was a glitch. I disconnected it so that I can manually pull it and I couldn't figure out how to put it back together. The technician from Active Garage Door came out, connected the door back to the motor and as soon as we did that, it ran and it’s still running. He went over a few things and he did his job. So, I’m very satisfied with what he did. I may have had some problems but I'm still with AHS. All I want is somebody to reasonably cover my stuff and be able to do it smoothly. So, hopefully, that means something to them down the road because I always pay on time. There's never an issue about the money. I pay both the regular fee and the $75, whatever is due. I want them to treat me like they want me to treat them. With AHS, the work gets done and when we get down to the nitty gritty, they have skilled people.

My AC was stuck on emergency heat and when we turned the air on, it wasn’t cooling. The claims process itself with American Home Shield was easy and they were very helpful. But the first time a technician came out, there were scheduling problems because we live in a rural area. There aren't very many contractors in our area. Also, there was a bit of a language barrier. He did not speak very good English. We were told of what was wrong with the unit and the technician ended up coming back out a second time to get a whole new unit installed. He was very thorough. We're really happy with it.

I've had a couple of previous experiences wherein I'm not really happy with American Home Shield. I'm fairly new to them and they have been sending out emails and giving me opportunities. One of those emails said I could order in-home filters for my heating and air conditioning. I did that and but then I'm sure I could have done better on Amazon price-wise. Moreover, they ended up sending two filters that I didn't order. They were the same dimensions in terms of length and width but then they were big filters. The only thing I could do was throw them away and it seemed like a waste. They messed up that order. Also, I had to do some research whether or not I paid them. It was a bit aggravating. Still, it was not really bad since it didn't cost me any money.
Another time, they ran another ad which said that I could service my HVAC units for $75. I responded yes and when I signed up, I told them that I have three air conditioning units. I asked if that made a difference in the premium and they said no. So without even thinking and assuming they knew how many units I had, I thought I was gonna get them serviced for $75. When the tech came out, he did one. Long story short, it was $75 per unit. They charged me $100 twice for two service calls, the first one that brought him out and then another when he realized there were two other units, he called AHS and they scheduled another service call with the tech sitting on the driveway. The total cost of what I thought was gonna be a $75 service fee was close to 450 bucks. It was kinda frustrating. Their policy is costing me money and the cost of ownership versus the payoff has been a bit disappointing. Still, our garage door wasn't working recently so we submitted a claim for its repair online to American Home Shield. It was an easy process and not very long after, a contractor came out. His professionalism couldn't have been better and the quality of his work was very good.

When our icemaker stopped functioning, my wife filed a claim with American Home Shield and their online process was very simple. She set it up on a Thursday and the contractor Bradley Appliance called us up on Friday. We gave them all the information about the refrigerator. Their technician came the following Monday, which was relatively quick, and he had the part needed in his truck. He said that the icemaker itself just broke but he didn't know why exactly and neither did we. Other than that, my wife had no complaints so everything was great. Now, our icemaker is fantastic.

When I first purchased my home, the seller purchased a year of American Home Shield. I liked having AHS' coverage and the price, so I continued to be a customer after that first year. We've had them for over two years now. I called AHS when I had an issue with my heater. Their rep scheduled a local installer to come out. When the heater wasn’t working, we had to use our back-up heat, which wasn’t a big deal because it was a different way to heat the house. And when the contractor came out for a visit, he found out what parts he needed to order and then ordered them. He was back within a week and had the heater fixed.

My central air-conditioning decided not to work so well, so I submitted a claim on it to American Home Shield over the phone. If we do it online, you can’t tell them what contractor you want. Some of the contractors they have sent have been dogs. When my heater went out, one guy came out. The thing worked when he left. But when the next guy came out, he went, "This isn't even to code." So, he had to repair his work. I then went online and said, "Specifically, need these guys to come because they actually know what they're doing." What I like about this company is that they come out and fix it, they don’t just come out and talk you to death. Now, everything works perfectly. They did a good job. American Home Shield is a good outfit. You have to do your end too as I did in my end. When that happens, it just works like clockwork. Overall, I'd recommend them.

We recently had a water line leaking and submitting a claim for it was easy. The contractor came out in two days. He did a very good job. He knew exactly what to do and did it. He was very streamlined and professional. This is the first claim we’ve had with them that was easy. Our two previous claims have been difficult because of poor communication between AHS and the contractors for 2 different issues. They're not proactive in getting in touch with the person. I tried to file a complaint and I was told by the people that answered the phone that they didn’t have any method of filing a complaint with American Home Shield. One of the issues went on for over a month before we got a resolution and the way we finally got a resolution, we just went on and let go and bought another refrigerator because they couldn't get the contractor out there to fix it.

Also, American Home Shield has always been so responsive. I'm pleased with the service. I submit my claims to them online, and being tech savvy, I find their site easy to navigate.
The only thing is when I placed a service call for my pool, the guy who came out told me that it was a maintenance thing and I needed to replace the filter of my pool pump, which is not covered. That could have been communicated to me prior. And then, for a couple of weeks now, I've been waiting on my reimbursement. I submitted my recent claim with American Home Shield over the phone and I told the girl exactly what was wrong with the ceiling fan. One of my ceiling fans was making a chicken sound that would drive you out of your mind. I was leery of it because it was shaking and I didn’t know if it was the plastic up in the top, where it connects to the ceiling. When I talk to AHS, I give them complete information on what the product and the situation is. I told the rep that the ceiling fan was old and that it ticks and ticks. It sounds like the motor was going and it has gotten worse.
A contractor came to fix it and he said that it has a breaker. He was in and out in five to 10 minutes. He told me that he was gonna put a report in and that he wasn’t the final say on it. But he didn’t even check to see if the thing up on the top is broken. If the girl said to me that the motor had to be completely out, I would have said to forget about it and I wouldn’t have had to pay the $125. I’m not trying to get a free fan, I’m just concerned. I wouldn’t have bothered to pay the money if I wasn’t concerned. But the contractor came out and gave me a song and a dance, and I didn’t appreciate that.
Moreover, one of the lights was hanging off on the other fan. I was worried it would get a short. I told the contractor to see what he could do there and maybe change the lights on the bottom. He said he was gonna look into it, but I never heard anything. The last time AHS sent a contractor out, he took the ceiling fan's base down and replaced it. He said it was cracked and I told him that I didn't want it going down on me. Then he changed the one that was completely dead. He was very good. So far, AHS has rectified everything that I have had a problem with.

Recently, our 14-year-old water heater stopped heating. I called American Home Shield and they said that they would contact AA Express and that I would be receiving a call. They sent me an email within the hour and AA Express called me that day and scheduled a time to go out. They went out the next day and the gentleman said, "We can't do anything with this. It's just too old." A replacement was approved that same day and I told them that it could be done the following Friday. They said, "Fine." Scheduled it for me and came in. The gentleman was wonderful, very nice, professional, cleaned up everything and that was it, I had a new water heater. I typically submit claims online as it's usually the easiest. The garbage disposal wouldn't run recently and we figured out that it was from the original building of the home, so the motor had burned out. The tech sent by American Home Shield showed up, figured out the problem quick and fixed it. Everything went fine. We had an issue in the last year though that was a lot more complicated than we originally realized. The toilet was stopped up. I submitted a claim for its repair over the phone and the reps were fine. However, when I called about my microwave, I didn't like the way the rep spoke to me. Though in the end, she was nice, she was yelling. I almost hung up on her both times. Thereafter, their contractor came and unstopped the toilet. Additionally, my faucet was running slow and he found that problem. There was something caught up on the side where the hot water is, which kept the hot water from going out fast. He took care of that as well.
However, I'm thinking about canceling American Home Shield. I've had them for six years but the payments have just gotten extremely high. I started out paying $40 and now, it's almost 100. And I can choose another company that charges me 40. Also, I didn't know that there were certain parts of my garage door that were not covered and I had to come out of pocket with $182 for the part when it broke down. I had to pay $82 for the service and pay the $75 for the monthly payment. I was out $400 this month. Nevertheless, American Home Shield has been good about replacing stuff.

This is my second claim on American Home Shield. The first claim we paid the $75 and a plumber came out, spent 5 minutes looking at our problem, said "not covered," and left. The plumber we paid to solve the problem said that the AHS people look for any excuse possible NOT to cover your problem, and they are worthless in his opinion. Our current claim is a Bosch dishwasher that won't work. I called in the problem last Friday. AHS said we could expect to hear back from the service provider very soon and soon after I received email specifying the provider. I waited until Tuesday, and I hadn't heard anything so I called the service provider. They said that immediately upon getting the job from AHS, they responded that they could not fix the Bosch dishwasher. That was Saturday. But we never heard back from AHS until I chased down the supplier.
So then I called AHS again. They told me yes they knew the 1st provider couldn't do the work, so they would contact a 2nd provider (but only when I called?). Then it turns out the 2nd can't do the work either. The AHS lady on the phone was very nice, and she went through a few more providers during 2-3 hours while I either waited on hold or talked to her or waited for callbacks. Finally she found a 4th service provider who can service the Bosch. I did receive the email information about that provider soon after, and the next day they came and determined I needed a new pump.
Now it's Friday and I haven't heard back from anybody. So I call the provider again, and they said they have to get the part from AHS. So I called AHS, and they said they knew a part was needed but they hadn't gotten to that order yet. They're currently working on parts orders from 2 days ago. In 2 days (weekdays) they hope to look at the parts order and begin looking for the part. There is no commitment or even informational guidance how long this process will take. So you decide if you want to fork out the $800 for an AHS contract.

My furnace went out In January and I called to get someone to come out to look at it. They couldn’t get someone so I had to get outside authorization. So I finally found someone to come out and diagnose the problem and was told I needed a new furnace. The technician called the outside authorization department and they would not approve the work and in fact were rude to the technician. I then called the outside authorizations department to find out what the problem was and was told by the supervisor (Amy **) that they felt that technician was charging too much. She then told me to give her 2 hours to find someone else and if she couldn’t she would approve the original technician.
2 hours later they said they couldn’t get anyone and my original technician could go ahead and do the work. I then called the technician and gave the authorization to do the work. I was then contacted by a rep from AHS and was told they needed a second opinion after I already was told I was okay to get the work started. I then called Amy back and was sent to voicemail. She called me back and said I was fine and once again I was approved. I emailed the invoices and service call receipts via email like I was told and received confirmation that it was received by AHS. I was told it could take 14-21 days. I waited and called back to check on the progress 21 days later and was told it was never received.
After several attempts/calls to find out what to do next, I was told to fax it to a lady named Rosie. She said she would call me the next day and confirm that she received my fax, but did not call me. I then called back and was told “Rosie was not available to talk to you nor was a manager.” I then called Amy and left a voicemail and never received a callback from Amy. However, Rosie finally called and left me a voice mail stating that my invoice and receipt was received. I did finally receive a check for $5439.00 a little over a week ago, which doesn’t make sense because I spent $5514.00 on the new furnace and $176.00 on the service call, a total of $5690.00. My service fee per my contract says that I only pay $75.00.
My math says $5690-$75=$5615 not $5439.00. The more confusing issue is AHS is saying I owe them $75 and sending me collection emails. When I call for explanation, I’m told I must pay the service fee of $75. I don’t feel I owe this and I am hung up on and put on hold for literally hours. AHS has honestly made a horrible situation worse and I would never recommend their service to anyone.

The upstairs bathroom was clogged up, and I didn’t know what it was clogged up from. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and the process was okay. However, there could be a bit more options like, "Is it the bathroom, is it upstairs or downstairs" whenever we click Plumbing. Nevertheless, the plumber came out the next day and that was beautiful. He did a good job. He found a pair of scissors when he did the snake and I was not surprised by that since I got great-grandkids and grandkids. That's one of the reasons why I knew we had to have a plumber come out. Going with AHS was the best move I made.

I submitted a claim for a dryer problem to American Home Shield. When I close its door, it would turn on and stay on by itself. Also, it wouldn't get hot. Within a couple of days, AHS sent someone out. The tech figured out what the problem was and called in to get approval to order the parts. The parts were shipped directly to my house and he came out and fixed the problem about two weeks later.

I was having a backup in my sink and dishwasher, and I also had another leak in my tub. So, I submitted my claim with AHS over the phone. Their rep was extremely helpful. The contractor who came out was professional and really good. The quality of his work was good as well, but I had to do a recall on the sink. He told me he ran a line through and that was fine. And then, a week later, it started backing up again and I had to call them, and they sent somebody else out. It was a hose between the dishwasher and the sink that was the problem. They fixed it and everything is performing great since the repair. I’m happy.

I went online to schedule an air conditioner checkup, first with American Home Shield. They sent an email out saying that they were providing the service to schedule one in March, so I did. They replied right away, and they told me that Burleson Services would be calling me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Five or six days later, I got another email from AHS asking me how the service was with a rating so I rated a zero because Burleson never called me to set up an appointment. I tried to call the number that was in the email that they sent me for the company, which was not a working number.
I called American Home Shield and I said, "It didn't happen. They didn't call to schedule an appointment." So, the gentleman I spoke with put me on hold and apparently contacted Burleson, came back and said that they would be calling me within the hour. I said, "Well, can you give me their number? A working number?", and he did. After three hours, I called Burleson and said, "Yeah, you were supposed to call me to schedule an appointment." We worked out that they were gonna come.
And then, the next day, which was a Thursday, the technician showed up. He called from wherever he was and said he would be there in a half hour, depending on traffic. I said, "Fine." When I answered the door, there were two servicemen and one guy said, "What's wrong with your unit?" And I said, "Nothing's wrong with my unit. Your company must be really screwed up if you don't even know what you're here to do." One gentleman started to walk in, and the other one turned around and walked away. I said to them, "Don't you want an explanation?" He said no and got in his truck, and the other one went with him and they drove away. Good customer service. Not a great first impression. It was all frustrating, calling and waiting and holding and stuff and then being disappointed when they got here.
I called back American Home Shield and after three or four calls, one call cut off and the rep never called me back. And then, another time I called, and it was kinda late in the afternoon, and she transferred me, but it was 5:00, and after 10 minutes of listening to lousy music, I hung up. So I called the next day and spoke with somebody, and they scheduled me with this company, Total Air Care, who called me right away and scheduled an appointment. The technician then came out. He was very cordial and very knowledgeable. He checked out my unit and did a good job. He came back, gave me a report on my unit, said everything was working fine. I was happy with that service. I got good service after a while. It just took a while to get there. On the other hand, I wouldn't call Burleson if it was the last company on Earth. I would swelter in the heat first.
AHS always gets your phone number, and then they can put you on hold to transfer you or to look up information. But instead of sitting on hold, it would be nice if they just called you back or ask if they could call you back so you're not sitting there waiting for a while. I know they're a call center. The first two people that I spoke to when I called, English was not their first language. The first one was okay because he was the one that called Burleson and scheduled it. The second person that I spoke to whose English was not her first language, was the one that put me on hold for a while, and then the phone call got cut off and she didn't call back. And then, when I called back, I did get a lady that spoke English, and that's when it was late in the afternoon and she transferred me to somebody to reschedule. And it was 5:00 and I just hung up after a while. But in the end, it turned out okay.

American Home Shield substituted somebody else for him and that took care of that. The garbage disposal had recently worn out and was starting to leak, and the tech from Pipe Down Services replaced it quickly. The only thing I would suggest in the whole process is sometimes, you wonder whether something’s covered, and they're not broad categories that you can find online. I have an outlet in the living room that wouldn't work all of a sudden, and I didn't know if it was covered. I asked one time and it took a little while to get a person to talk to. Submitting claims with American Home Shield using the phone is simple. When I had an electrical issue, they first sent out Wire Nuts, which was worthless. The guy had a bad attitude and, for some reason, didn’t wanna fix the issue. He said it was our fault and left. I got a second opinion from Garner Electric and they were great. They said the issue was simple and fixed it. I've been with AHS for about five years and we’ve had a lot of things done over the years. We’ve had appliances replaced and next week, we’re gonna have a plumber come. I tried another company once and they were a little harder to deal with so I went back to AHS. When my microwave stopped working, I called it in and a young man was sent out. I used him before. He fixed the microwave but two weeks later, I went to use it and there was a spark coming from the fan. I called again and the young man came by the next day. What he found was on the electrical cord that says the warning, we had a plastic. That was the reason for the issue. He was out there for about half an hour or less and got the issue fixed.

I had a furnace that went out and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. Navigating the website was easy. The contractor in the local area contacted me by phone to set up an appointment. The two guys who came out did an outstanding job. Separate from American Home Shield, we had a contractor come out last fall because the furnace didn’t appear to be doing what it was supposed to do. He came through and said everything was good. These two guys came through three months later when we were having issues. They identified the problem in 15 minutes and had it corrected in 20 minutes. They were very professional and they did a good job. The subscription we had with American Home Shield was a result of our purchasing a home about a year ago, and based on the condition of the home, we decided not to renew even though from a standpoint of a new homeowner to a home following a purchasing, AHS is a great deal.

2 Sons Plumbing handled my situation very well. The problem was that American Home Shield couldn't tell me really whether or not the problem was coverage. They were like, "Is it an outside problem or an inside problem?" I had to arrange for our landscaping service to come out and check, which I then had to pay for and wait so that I didn't waste my time. If AHS had more knowledge about it, they could have given me greater assurance and I wouldn't have paid $150 for someone to come out and tell me what they suspected anyway.

American Home Shield is costly, and I don’t like that you have to pay a service fee before somebody comes out. Recently the water in my sink was draining onto the floor, and the first contractor that was supposed to be coming out to do the plumbing never showed up. I talked to a guy from AHS and he called the tech guy, who said that he was at the emergency room. I told the gentleman I was speaking to not to send that tech. That was when they contacted Rapp’s, who I had dealt with before. The tech came out Monday on the scheduled time and resolved everything quickly.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield when the ejector pump in the basement had stopped working. Submitting the claim was simple and so far, the experience has been good. BNK was very good. However, the tenant wasn't listening to what we were telling him. I told him when I finally got a hold of him that he needs to call BNK Plumbing to set the appointment up. Once it was done, it was fine. The ejector pump was replaced. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

American Home Shield has been really good so far. They’ve been really quick and easy to use. We’ve had HMS before and it is a little bit more difficult to submit claims compared to AHS. We had a leak below our faucet that I wanted to have addressed. The person from Discount Contractors came 2 days after we sent a request and assessed it and also found additional issue that we weren’t exactly aware of as well. He was really informative. He also gave some advice and mitigation that we could use going forward.

I filed a claim online and Mechanical Contractors did all the pre-service stuff. They checked everything and the guy who was here said something was dirty. They cleaned it with some type of acid spray and charged another fee as that wasn't covered by American Home Shield. AHS has everything in black and white and every technician they sent me in the past has been fast and really good.

My dryer had a strange squeaking noise when it ran, and the tech came out and took care of it. I used American Home Shield's website, and it was pretty easy. I submitted on Friday night and the business that took my claim didn’t call me until Monday, which was fine. We scheduled so it would coincide with my schedule, and though I was running a little late, the tech was kind enough to wait for me and fix my dryer. I don’t enjoy having things break down, but I've enjoyed having them come and take care of things.
I am debating about canceling the service 'cause in three years, I've only used them three times. It's costing me nearly $1,000 a year to have the home warranty, and if there was a cashback for not using them or an incentive to avoid using them, it would be a great way to retain business. It would also help if they have a dedicated application for smartphones. Overall American Home Shield is an excellent service that gives peace of mind. It's just costly to be using it only once a year.

It was very frustrating so I will never call customer service again.
American Home Shield is a nice thing to have but there are only certain people, when you live in certain areas, that can come. It'd be nice if we could get to choose contractors. I'm just kind of learning about American Home Shield through all this. Also, I wish American Home Shield would give us more choices. I had to have my faucet replaced. The contractor had to come back a second time to do that and it was a cheapo faucet. It's a substandard faucet that I have now. The guy showed me how much it would've cost if I was paying for it. It was like $600 but there was no way it was a $600 faucet. I'm not sure that I will use this service anymore.

I've been with American Home Shield for about 13 years, and with all those years, I didn’t know that when you make a claim for an appliance, it includes all appliances when you have an issue. So I've been making separate claims in 10 years. But the toughest part for me is when I call in a claim, and I have to wait on hold for an hour and a half to get someone to answer.
They should have somebody to get the phone more efficiently and quickly or to let us put our phone number in and get a return call. But if I called the department where we make the claim, they would give me a return call which I really appreciate because my time is valuable. I wish they would do that when we're calling to have them out originally. I have learned recently that there are different contracts for different people. If my contract is just as good or better than the new customers, then I'm happy with it. Overall, we've had good experiences with American Home Shield, and I always recommend them.

I'm still waiting till this day. American Home Shield says they will call me back and I never get a callback. Every rep. says, "Oh the quote has been submitted" or, "It has been submitted but it still needs to go through another department." Then you have to wait 5-7 business day and AZ Remodeling will call you to schedule. Really, I have a water tank leaking into an electrical box. I would never do this again. This company is more of a headache for a customer than anything. I wouldn't give this company any reviews.

Updated on 06/07/2019: I have had American Home Shield for about three months. My first call was in regards to my sump pump and the first technician came out and told me I had a electrical problem without doing any diagnosis. It wasn’t until after I did a follow up wasn’t it fixed. Next I had a small leak from my outside faucet and the technician again tried convincing me it was an issue. Only after a follow up was it fixed. Finally I showed a technician I have slow drainage and again I was told I don’t have a mechanical issue. I am not sure why but it seems as if they don’t fix the issue at first try. Quite frustrating when paying a big amount for the service you would expect.
Original Review: I had someone come out to my house to check why the sump pump was not working. He barely spent 2 minutes looking at it and did not even attempt at fixing it. I was told I had a electric problem without even trying. When I called to get help through customer service I was told I would be charged another fee.

Sunday my dryer stopped working. I called in a service. The contractor assigned to me was out of town until Thursday and not accepting any calls. This is when everything fell apart. I called AHS to get a contractor out BEFORE Thursday. The call center in the Philippines is incompetent. My broken dryer was reassigned to Sears Warranty Company - which does not even handle AHS work orders. However, I did not know that at the time. The agent told me that I had an appointment on Weds. (today) between 10 - 12 pm.
As no one showed up I called AHS to find out the status. The first agent said I had no appointment schedules at all today, BUT the repair had been assigned to Sears Warranty. She gave me their phone number and put me on hold to check their availability. I was subsequently disconnected. I called the number for Sears the agent gave me. They had no idea about a work order for my dryer, nor do they work with AHS.
My second call today to AHS was again to an agent in the Philippines. He wanted to argue about the notes under my claim. Stating that they were the ones who notified me that the first contractor was not available. This is when I found out that the 'customer agents' document the facts however they want to and not how things happened. After explaining to him what really transpired, I asked to be transferred to a Supervisor to relay issues that need addressed in training their agents, AND to determine if I have a repair person coming to fix my dryer with Sears as I have been told. The agent left me on HOLD FOR 40 min without getting back to me whatsoever. I hung up and called back.
The third agent I spoke to next, again in the Philippines told me again that the work order had been reassigned to Sears Warranty. I advised her that I called Sears, the number they gave me, and they DO NOT work on AHS covered appliances. She insisted that it was Sears and then gave me a second appointment time for tomorrow at 1 - 5 pm. She stated that this appointment was just made today... I asked her to double check because Sears says they don't work on AHS appliances. Then somehow she discovered that it was NOT Sears after all but another appliance company. She then gave me their number to contact. At least this agent got me over to a supervisor in a timely manner afterwards.
I still am not sure if I have an appointment or not because I can't go by what their customer service agents say. Today I have wasted 5 hours of my time, unpaid, experienced great stress and anxiety dealing with the AHS call center in the Philippines. What is so frustrating to me is - if I did my job like this here - I would be fired.
Hi Maria,
Your concerns are greatly understood regarding the dryer service request and the overall lack of communication that has been experienced with several representatives. I would be glad to speak with you and get your issues resolved.

I joined in December 2018. They offered an AC tune up special in February 2019 at an extra cost on top of the monthly fee I paid. I called to take advantage of the offer and everything ran smoothly. They set up an appointment with the HVAC people that they use in my area. The HVAC company called and scheduled an appointment. I took a half day off of work and met the guy, who showed up on time and did the tune ups on both my AC units. He discovered a bad compressor on the small upstairs unit and told me to call American Home Shield and let them know. I let them know the HVAC guy that they sent out said I needed a new compressor. A woman from the company called and an appointment was set up for the next day between 12 and 5.
Again I took a half day off of work and waited.. and waited... and waited. About 10 until 5 I called and was told that I was on the list but it didn’t look like they were going to be able to make it out today. I called and had to track down the problem. So I had taken the financial hit on the loss of the second half day of work and no one even had the courtesy to call and tell me they weren’t coming. After I was told by the HVAC company that no one was coming I called American Home Shield. I waited nearly 30 minutes on hold to talk with someone. When I spoke with the representative she apologized but made no effort to make the mistake right or compensate me in any way.
Long story short, when I was paying them, everything ran smoothly. They called, scheduled, showed up on time and my credit card was charged by American Home Shield automatically. When I had what was going to certainly be an fairly expensive fix, they called and scheduled, never showed up and made me track them down to find out that they decided not to come. So you be the judge. I subsequently cancelled my membership. I don’t have time to get jacked around by American Home Shield and their repair associates. I can’t afford to keep taking off of work in hopes that somebody may or may not show up. I have no use for a company that when a mistake is made, does not want your long term business enough to reach out and make things right.
Good morning Lowell,
Your concerns are understood regarding the HVAC routine check up and the repairs that need to be completed. I would be glad to speak with you and address the delay.

Normally I don't write reviews but I feel that I need to assist someone in making an informed decision. I've been an AHS customer for some years and I've previously had all good experiences but this is the WORSE! I requested repair for my A/C as it was not cooling, one of their contract companies come out 9/2018 to repair my unit. They added stop leak and refrigerant. The refrigerant that I had to pay $500 for because AHS doesn't cover but like $10 per pound all leaked out as the stop leak didn't work. The contracting company told me they would put in a request and recommendation to have my coils replaced since this is the part of the unit that was leaking.
As of 3/27/2019 this has not been completed. I started calling once a week just this month and they kept telling me that they were having a hard time getting in contact with the original contracting company and would transfer to another company. Fast forward the new company comes out last week and I tell the technician what's going on with the unit. He's able to verify that the coils do have holes and he can see where they leaked and took pictures of the coils to make a recommendation repair and send to AHS.
I'm not sure if AHS is trying NOT to cover this or the technician wrote the report up lacking details but I receive a call today from the new contractor to come and add sealant and refrigerant and they want me to pay $270? Why? So that $270 can leak over my attic walls again? I'm highly disappointed with AHS and how they have handled this and why they didn't send out a contractor sooner or approve the coils back 5 months ago. If you have a leaky faucet this warranty is excellent that's about as much as it appears to be good for.

Updated on 04/13/2019: Like I mentioned in the 2 month without a refrigerator review just with some additions. Like when American Home Shield offered $1000 for a new refrigerator but ours cost is $2400 so we said we said we want it fixed. After 2 months without a refrigerator they called to say the part will be here two weeks ago on Tuesday. The repairman came out and said it's not his job to fix it because it is under warranty so they need to send someone else instead. Call for an appointment.
The next week a person came out to look at the refrigerator. The person said they need to order parts. He also said he hopes the parts he orders works. Well so do we. After 3 months without a refrigerator we hope so too. American Home Shield gets free parts so they will not give a new one when they can get the parts obviously. Wish we never joined. Can we get our money back, or how about just a refrigerator that works. Sure would be nice to have ice cream sometime soon.
Original Review: The first time the person came out he ordered a part. The second time he came with the part but could not repair it. Then he yelled at my wife and told her to shut up, then people called the police on your inspector for being caught going through the house. Then American Home Shield called and sent a new person out. The new person ordered a compressor. Then American called and said they will replace the refrigerator. Then they called and said they will fix it. Then after 7 weeks with no refrigerator we called and they offered partial payment instead of full replacement or I can have it repaired. I said repair it then. Now 2 months and no refrigerator. American Home Shield subs out to the worst and cheapest service people. The worst company. Never use them. Or do use them so you can find out what a scam they are.

My compressor went out on my refrigerator. My refrigerator made no noise prior to the contractor, Runyon Appliance, repairing my refrigerator. Now the compressor makes a surging and buzzing noise. I called the contractor and AHS and was told that the warranty does not cover "noise". The contractor came out and stated it was the compressor making the noise. I asked him if the surging uses more electricity and received no response. The contractor stated that they can only put in the type of compressor that AHS allows. I am woken up multiple times a night due to the sound. Why am I paying for a warranty and a service call to only receive dollar store repairs.

I had a dishwasher that was not heating the water, and it wasn’t heating to dry the dishes in the cycle. I submitted a claim online and it was straightforward and easy doing that. I'm usually on the road. That's one of the reasons I went with American Home Shield. I'm usually at work or out of town when my wife tells me there's something that needs to be fixed. The way it usually works and the way American Home Shield has it set up is the technician comes to the home, confirms what's broken and what parts are needed and then you wait until American Home Shield sends the parts. Then you have a second visit where they put in the repair parts. In this case, when they put the parts back together, another part was not working.
So they came back a third time and found that there was a connection that was not right and they left. To see that it works, you have to run a cycle which is at least an hour long. And the light did not come on after the cycle was completed. I asked them back a fourth time and they determined that the light part had failed, and it was also possibly a bad control board. The replacement control board was bad. So, they ordered parts again, and we waited again. The fifth time was a charm. They put the second replacement board in and replacement part for the light and it worked as well.
When they replaced the control board the first time, the heating of the water and the heating to dry did function properly. But the light no longer worked after. What I'm not happy with is, being in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, parts are readily available here. And having to wait for American Home Shield to send the parts just adds more downtime on whatever it is that needs to be fixed. We just washed our dishes by hand until they replaced the control board the first time. And after they fixed it the first time, the dishwasher would clean the dishes. You just couldn't tell when it was done because it's a stainless steel unit where nothing shows on the outside. They have a light that shines on the floor when the cycle is complete. And the unit is so quiet that you have to lean down and listen to it or open it up to see if it's done.
And when you open it up, if it's still doing the heated drying, you just lose all that heat by opening it up. I wanted the light fixed as well. But after they replaced the control board the first time, we were getting our clean dishes. We just had to let it go until we were sure it was done. I'm not happy with the parts situation, but I still recommend American Home Shield to friends and family. It's always been worth our money over the years. And I am happy with Appliance Rx. If something breaks, I would want them back.

I paid the $100 for the service. They said the contractor would return the next day for fixing, but they called me and said they can't fix the issue because I had to fix the floor first. When I called another company, the company came over and fixed the problem. That was very easy. They didn’t have a lot of issues for that. I was very happy, but he didn’t have the parts to fix it. He said, “I don’t have those parts.” It’s gonna cost the company more money to fix it. I’ll call the company and let them know how much it's gonna cost, and they’ll decide it.” He said the parts that I needed was more money than if I got a new one.
AHS asked me for a lot of paperwork. Everybody’s very nice and knowledgeable. But they asked me if I have to go and buy my own microwave oven because it will be easier for me. I don’t live there in Arizona. It will take me four hours to get there. I have to have a special day that I can go there. I've been with American Home Shield for almost 10 years now, and I prefer submitting a claim online. The website navigation is fine. However, my experience with them has been hit or miss. Sometimes they're responsive but sometimes, they're delayed in getting repair people out to the house. There was a time that in the middle of winter, the heat had been going out and I was told that the first available person wouldn’t be until a week later. That was unacceptable. So I had to make phone calls and they relented and allowed me to find a contractor of my own. Even so, they were able to reimburse me for that. Everything was paid through the contractor. I was responsible for the deductible to do that, but they should automatically make that referral out as opposed to giving me some ridiculous timeframe and then making me have to go through the hurdle of contacting AHS and then arguing with people to try to get another contractor.
I've had some techs who were phenomenal and do quality work. And then, I've also had others who came out for the water heater but I was literally calling the next day because it had an issue again. So the techs had to come back out but they didn’t fix it. The neighbor did. I ended up paying the deductible. Overall, I've had mixed results as far as performance of the contract. I have been researching to find another home warranty company.
I just left a message on your voicemail as well as emailed you.

When I had water coming out on the front door of my washer, I called American Home Shield to submit my claim. I'm not an online request type person and calling is usually simple enough. Plus, when I call, I go straight through. I let them know the issue and they assigned someone and let me know when the contractor was gonna call. I had to call the contractor before they called me since I wanted to make sure I get the right date. When I called Surfside Appliances, they had received the ticket and scheduled the repair on the same week I called. I called early in that week and we scheduled the initial evaluation of the appliance on Friday. It was a matter of my time and availability. I had to schedule for the end of the week.
The contractor was wonderful. He was on time and very professional. I explained to him what the issues were and he knew right away what the problem would probably be. He knew without even looking at it. Then he opened the door of the washing machine, identified the issue and he showed me exactly what it was. He also looked at the dishwasher and I explained the funny noise. He ran multiple cycles, but before he did he said that there was a part that made that type of noise. He knew exactly what it could be. Then he checked and confirmed it. Then when the part came on the following week, he called right away and let me know the part was there. We scheduled on Thursday, he came out and did whatever he needed to do and he was out. Everything has been working perfectly.
American Home Shield has been working for me, thus far. I like that if I have multiple issues and they are under the same category, I don't have to use multiple service calls. However, if it is an electrical or plumbing problem plus an appliance problem, then I have to have multiple service calls with multiple service fees, which is the problem. It would be nice if the service fee could be combined if the service calls are within a certain window of time. I could have called about the washer a long time ago, but because I knew that my refrigerator was making noise and there are some other issues, I waited until I could identify the other issues so I can group it all under one service call.

And when I told her that I had a crawl space, she told me that she has large men and that nobody would be able to fit. I thought that was ridiculous. I fit in there and my dad fits in there. It’s a small opening, but once you get in there, it’s not bad. It’s large actually. She said, “Well, I’m gonna have to call American Home Shield.” So, while she did that, we got off the phone, I also got online with AHS. And they said, “Well, they’re trying to see if they have someone small enough to fit. So, if you can wait on that.” I was thinking, “No. I have a dripping pipe. I don’t want it to burst and flood my crawl and make matters worse.” She said, “Or I can send you another company.” And they did, which was Ready Jetter.
Kevin reached out to me almost immediately. He came over and looked at the crawl. Because it was raining and my dryer vent was disconnected, and I had the dryer on, he said, “I can’t really get in there today. Don’t do laundry for the next couple days, let it air out, and I’ll come back.” So, I went in and reconnected the dryer vents and let the air out down there. He came back on Tuesday, went in, and fixed what he had to fix. Everything has been okay with AHS, so far. The lady I chatted with on there recently was freaking amazing. The first lady I chatted with was not so much. I really didn’t care for her. But the second lady was very helpful.

I called in a claim with American Home Shield for my dryer that was making a loud noise and the claims representative was able to work with me on scheduling a service. I got the same contractor company I had before and I like them. The gentleman who came out to my home was excellent. He is always very thorough and he knows what he’s doing. He just had a roller replaced and he got everything resolved. He put everything back together like it was. He also cleaned up and I like that part.

I called American Home Shield for the air conditioner and the company that they sent to fix it was very good. It took them about an hour to fix the unit. AHS is a very good service. I recommended it.

AHS sent Element Mechanical for our AC tune-up and they did a good job. The techs were friendly and very thorough.

My wife wanted a home warranty. We've always had one, but we weren't very happy with it. American Home Shield was recommended and we've been happy with them. I've been calling to submit claims and the representatives have been good. However, we had some issues. Part of it was my fault, too. We had problems with our water heater and with the boiler. We would sometimes get referred to plumbers. One plumber came to work on the water heater and said that it was a problem with the boiler. So, AHS sent someone else to work on the boiler, who then said that it was a problem with the water heater.
We realized there was a leak where the water comes into the house. The plumber who came out said that they needed a well company to look at it even though it was a pipe in the basement in the house. It took a while to get the well company. There has been a lot of confusion about which parts are those of the plumbing system and which parts are those of a different plumbing system. When the parts are connected, there are problems with both of them or problems with one or the other. It finally ended up that our water heater needed to be replaced. When AHS replaced it, it was so corroded inside that they couldn't even drain it. They had to rebuild in some of the holes in it and there were huge gobs of dust in there.
The first contractor would come and look at it or they would come and change one part, then they would say that if that doesn't fix it, they would try something else. There was a problem with the last contractor who finally came and it was a mess. He fixed everything, but he said he has been having problems getting payment from AHS because the first contractors used up our allotment for the system. He got a verbal okay ahead of time from someone but now, he is having problems. He just mentioned it in passing, but it was a headache. The contractor is still trying to figure out how to get payment from AHS, but everything is fixed.
Dealing with customer service has been very good and we like AHS better than our old company because they would have just denied everything. The callers are good at customer service and there are little problems with not understanding the different systems, but they are always willing to help and listen. So, the call center of AHS is that good. AHS is the best home warranty company we've been with and it is head and shoulders above the other one we were with.

I spoke on the phone with an American Home Shield rep to file a claim on a panel that was coming loose. Sometimes, when I hit the panel button, it didn’t start, but then I hit it and then it would. The rep got a service scheduled around my schedule, so it was good. The contractor from GE Appliances came out and identified what the issue was and then had to order a part which came in the following week. And then they took care of it at that time.

My dishwasher wasn't draining and I couldn't troubleshoot why, so it looked like it was a problem with the drain lines. I did the claim at American Home Shield online which was easier and it's probably what I will do in the future. It took about a day for GE Appliances to come out and the contractor was very good. It turned out to be a plumbing problem and nothing to do with the dishwasher. The guy still helped me clear out the drain line, though there was still a blockage that I had to hire a plumber for.

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my pool's filter. It was an easy process. They sent a repair company out and that company determined that the filter was leaking. They went back, talked to American Home Shield and suggested to take the filter apart to see if it can be fixed or if it needed to be replaced. They then came back the following week, took the filter apart, and confirmed that it was broken and that they couldn't fix it. They left the filter like that, took the part, and came back on Monday to replace it. So, getting the approval took a couple of weeks.
One thing about American Home Shield is that the deductible went up by $10. I had a warranty last year and I just renewed it but I wasn't informed of the increase. I only found out about it when I filed a claim and talked to somebody on the InstaMessage. I told him that I wasn't informed of the increase but all he told me was that he was sorry about that but the deductible went up for everybody. I think that that is something that should be declared at a renewal. Even so, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I'm weary of American Home Shield. Our contract says they can't do certain things, but I can never get a hold of anybody. I've been on hold for 30 to 45 minutes and it's very exhausting. I have friends who have been with American Home Shield whose AC unit got replaced whereas we have been dealing with the company for 16 years and every summer we go without air. Last summer, we went without air for about three weeks in Jacksonville, Florida when it was about 90 degrees outside and my husband is diabetic and has a heart condition. We went back and forth last summer to the point that my husband even wrote a letter to the president but never got a response. We were at the end of our rope and we don’t have the money to stay in a hotel or buy a new air conditioning unit. They were gonna give us $150 towards a window unit, but that won't buy one.
It seems like the money that I've spent since being a client of American Home Shield for 16 years on monthly fees, service charges for this air conditioner, repair work and what they’d spent, they could have bought us a new air conditioning unit years ago and be done with it. Total Air Care, on the other hand, has been awesome. The deal, however, was that I would call them and they would tell me that they're waiting for approval from American Home Shield. I would then call American Home Shield and hold with them for 30 minutes before I got somebody on the phone, and they would say that they've not heard from Total Air Care and they couldn't do anything until they get the contractor's report. That went on for 10 days - back and forth. I had to threaten to get an attorney to make them handle the situation and get it taken care of. The minute I said that, within the next day, they had somebody out here to fix it.
I've also had some issues, like plumbing, and the people American Home Shield sends out are not bad. The contractors have done what they were supposed to do. I just get tired of having to try to get in touch with American Home Shield. For the money I pay, I'm dissatisfied with my experience with them and I wouldn’t recommend them at all. I'm over them.
Hi, Dana. I do understand your concerns with a unit that is in need of service each year and I apologize that you had to endure weeks of hot air while trying to get past issues resolved. A member of our Social Media team will contact you directly to assist you further.

The previous owner had attempted to fix a leak in the showerhead, but the leak was then transferred to the faucet. It was easy submitting the claim online. I did not have to talk to anybody. The plumber said that it was broken, and he fixed it. They were there early and they were quick.

I started with American Home Shield last year and right now they're good. They’ve been a company I’m willing to stay with for a little bit longer if I have no issues. It’s a very easy process going to the website for a service request, but getting on the phone is a different story. They could improve their customer service wait time which sometimes is way too long. There should be a callback where you can just put your number in and they call you back when they’re ready. There are a lot of small local companies that they use, which is totally fine, but I would want bigger companies than the small mom-and-pop shops. Some of the prices I got from the mom-and-pop shops are a little bit more inflated than the bigger companies.
I've had good and bad experiences with the people I worked with that I called. Grade A was for my sump pump, and they came over and did an assessment on my sump pump and my French drain ‘cause I was getting flooding. The guy was okay, but I called a second person for a second opinion and Grade A’s estimate was a little more excessive than my second opinion. Another time, one of the contractors came to my house, but they never called or texted me to say they were coming. They stayed on the driveway and called American Home Shield to say they were here. Other companies would text me saying, “I’m on my way,” and it works great. It all depends on the contractors that AHS uses and their level of customer service. I sometimes have beef with some of the customer service reps, but majority of the time when I call them, they’re great.
