Our garbage disposal leaked and American Home Shield sent contractors who replaced the unit. However, I looked under the sink last night and it was a little wet. I would need to investigate that more when I get home today. I’ve tried to do another claim online recently and from the options that I get to pick from about what I’m requesting, I wish it was more detailed. I wish it would give me an area where I could type in what is going in. Not everything they say on there might be what I need. For instance, we’re not getting hot water to our kitchen sink and I don’t know if that’s a sink issue in the kitchen or a water heater issue. The website doesn’t let me specify what’s going on, so I don’t know how to do it. But other than that, submitting a claim with American Home Shield is still fairly easy.

I had a clogged tub drain and a leak. I spoke with an American Home Shield rep over the phone to submit a claim and this rep did a fine job and got my issue sent to A&M Plumbing. The plumber came out the next day and then, he had to order a part. He was very professional and did a very nice job. Since the repair of my tub, everything's fine.

The temperature in my refrigerator went up and it wouldn't go down. The freezer was working, but the temperature in the refrigerator was up to 60. I called American Home Shield to submit a claim, and the rep told me to expect a contractor out within 24 hours. A contractor from Brother's Appliance Services came out. He was very good because he showed me everything that he took apart and the part that malfunctioned and told me what I needed to do. Then he showed me how I needed to put the refrigerator back together after he left. Having a warranty is a lot of value to me. I don't have to worry if something breaks.

My AC was acting really weird. The contractors came out and diagnosed it, and then left. I submitted all the information to AHS, and it was approved for coverage. Then, they very promptly made a follow-up appointment to fix everything. The contractors showed up on time, and they did a good job. As a matter of fact, I went ahead and hired them for my monthly maintenance, so everything went great. I’m sure at this point, I will re-up my coverage with them.

AHS has been great. The spring of my garage door broke and I called the problem in to them. I was an easy process and the response time thereafter was great. I liked how they got back to me and how quickly their contractors got out here. Since the repair, the performance of the garage door has been good.

When I submitted my claim to American Home Shield, the process was very easy. I love doing it online versus waiting on hold. The phone line hasn't been very timely and it seems like I get the same person. Ever since I started using the online format, the experience has been a lot better. The most recent claim I had was for an AC unit. AHS was very responsive and their response time was extremely timely. The contractor was great and very professional too. He took his time and explained everything. He fixed the AC and it's been working since.

American Home Shield contract began in February 2018. As of today, I am still waiting for my repair to be completed. Both the Contractor and AHS have been very poor in giving me assistance. Very disappointed. Today I had to call AHS 6 times (over 4 hours on hold and disconnected 5 times) before I could talk to someone that was helpful. AHS takes my premium monthly without any issues. I just wish the follow-up and completion would be something I could be happy with. Trying to get to a supervisor for assistance is impossible. Even when talking with a supervisor, they failed to call me back when a callback was promised.

The company puts your claim complete even though you are waiting for them to get parts. So no one follows through to make sure it is happening. You can't get a customer service agent that knows what to do. Also they put a time limit on claims so if you have problems later, you have to pay again.

Had C&P Plumbing sent by AHS to resolve a stopped up sink. The single unit sink has 3 basins and three drains. The plumber fixed 1 and refused to touch the other 2. He told us to make another call to AHS to have the other parts of the sink unclogged. When AHS called the vendor to find out why they had not finished the job, C&P Plumbing said they had completed the job. THAT IS NOT COMPLETE WORK!! The vendor was nasty to my tenant as well. The online reviews of C&P Plumbing indicate that they have a poor work history with many complaints about their service. AHS needs to find better contractors to complete their work. I'm not paying for 3 visits because ONE sink is stopped up.

This is my second claim on American Home Shield. The first claim we paid the $75 and a plumber came out, spent 5 minutes looking at our problem, said "not covered," and left. The plumber we paid to solve the problem said that the AHS people look for any excuse possible NOT to cover your problem, and they are worthless in his opinion. Our current claim is a Bosch dishwasher that won't work. I called in the problem last Friday. AHS said we could expect to hear back from the service provider very soon and soon after I received email specifying the provider. I waited until Tuesday, and I hadn't heard anything so I called the service provider. They said that immediately upon getting the job from AHS, they responded that they could not fix the Bosch dishwasher. That was Saturday. But we never heard back from AHS until I chased down the supplier.

So then I called AHS again. They told me yes they knew the 1st provider couldn't do the work, so they would contact a 2nd provider (but only when I called?). Then it turns out the 2nd can't do the work either. The AHS lady on the phone was very nice, and she went through a few more providers during 2-3 hours while I either waited on hold or talked to her or waited for callbacks. Finally she found a 4th service provider who can service the Bosch. I did receive the email information about that provider soon after, and the next day they came and determined I needed a new pump.

Now it's Friday and I haven't heard back from anybody. So I call the provider again, and they said they have to get the part from AHS. So I called AHS, and they said they knew a part was needed but they hadn't gotten to that order yet. They're currently working on parts orders from 2 days ago. In 2 days (weekdays) they hope to look at the parts order and begin looking for the part. There is no commitment or even informational guidance how long this process will take. So you decide if you want to fork out the $800 for an AHS contract.

My furnace went out In January and I called to get someone to come out to look at it. They couldn’t get someone so I had to get outside authorization. So I finally found someone to come out and diagnose the problem and was told I needed a new furnace. The technician called the outside authorization department and they would not approve the work and in fact were rude to the technician. I then called the outside authorizations department to find out what the problem was and was told by the supervisor (Amy **) that they felt that technician was charging too much. She then told me to give her 2 hours to find someone else and if she couldn’t she would approve the original technician.

2 hours later they said they couldn’t get anyone and my original technician could go ahead and do the work. I then called the technician and gave the authorization to do the work. I was then contacted by a rep from AHS and was told they needed a second opinion after I already was told I was okay to get the work started. I then called Amy back and was sent to voicemail. She called me back and said I was fine and once again I was approved. I emailed the invoices and service call receipts via email like I was told and received confirmation that it was received by AHS. I was told it could take 14-21 days. I waited and called back to check on the progress 21 days later and was told it was never received.

After several attempts/calls to find out what to do next, I was told to fax it to a lady named Rosie. She said she would call me the next day and confirm that she received my fax, but did not call me. I then called back and was told “Rosie was not available to talk to you nor was a manager.” I then called Amy and left a voicemail and never received a callback from Amy. However, Rosie finally called and left me a voice mail stating that my invoice and receipt was received. I did finally receive a check for $5439.00 a little over a week ago, which doesn’t make sense because I spent $5514.00 on the new furnace and $176.00 on the service call, a total of $5690.00. My service fee per my contract says that I only pay $75.00.

My math says $5690-$75=$5615 not $5439.00. The more confusing issue is AHS is saying I owe them $75 and sending me collection emails. When I call for explanation, I’m told I must pay the service fee of $75. I don’t feel I owe this and I am hung up on and put on hold for literally hours. AHS has honestly made a horrible situation worse and I would never recommend their service to anyone.

I've got a in-the-sink built-in dishwasher and it's really cool. When we bought the house and moved in, it was working fine. But all of a sudden, it just started to not work. I couldn't figure out what was going on, and I was really afraid that I was gonna have to replace the whole thing because it's really difficult to find. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and then a tech from JTL Services came out. He was here really fast. He looked at the dishwasher and said that he never seen it before but he knew what was the matter. He crawled under there, and like Harry Potter, in about five minutes later, he came out and said that it was fixed. There was a corroded relay and he just screeched it off with a little sandpaper, and plugged it all back together. I was really happy about that. I will always have American Home Shield doing my thing here.

I went online to schedule an air conditioner checkup, first with American Home Shield. They sent an email out saying that they were providing the service to schedule one in March, so I did. They replied right away, and they told me that Burleson Services would be calling me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Five or six days later, I got another email from AHS asking me how the service was with a rating so I rated a zero because Burleson never called me to set up an appointment. I tried to call the number that was in the email that they sent me for the company, which was not a working number.

I called American Home Shield and I said, "It didn't happen. They didn't call to schedule an appointment." So, the gentleman I spoke with put me on hold and apparently contacted Burleson, came back and said that they would be calling me within the hour. I said, "Well, can you give me their number? A working number?", and he did. After three hours, I called Burleson and said, "Yeah, you were supposed to call me to schedule an appointment." We worked out that they were gonna come.

And then, the next day, which was a Thursday, the technician showed up. He called from wherever he was and said he would be there in a half hour, depending on traffic. I said, "Fine." When I answered the door, there were two servicemen and one guy said, "What's wrong with your unit?" And I said, "Nothing's wrong with my unit. Your company must be really screwed up if you don't even know what you're here to do." One gentleman started to walk in, and the other one turned around and walked away. I said to them, "Don't you want an explanation?" He said no and got in his truck, and the other one went with him and they drove away. Good customer service. Not a great first impression. It was all frustrating, calling and waiting and holding and stuff and then being disappointed when they got here.

I called back American Home Shield and after three or four calls, one call cut off and the rep never called me back. And then, another time I called, and it was kinda late in the afternoon, and she transferred me, but it was 5:00, and after 10 minutes of listening to lousy music, I hung up. So I called the next day and spoke with somebody, and they scheduled me with this company, Total Air Care, who called me right away and scheduled an appointment. The technician then came out. He was very cordial and very knowledgeable. He checked out my unit and did a good job. He came back, gave me a report on my unit, said everything was working fine. I was happy with that service. I got good service after a while. It just took a while to get there. On the other hand, I wouldn't call Burleson if it was the last company on Earth. I would swelter in the heat first.

AHS always gets your phone number, and then they can put you on hold to transfer you or to look up information. But instead of sitting on hold, it would be nice if they just called you back or ask if they could call you back so you're not sitting there waiting for a while. I know they're a call center. The first two people that I spoke to when I called, English was not their first language. The first one was okay because he was the one that called Burleson and scheduled it. The second person that I spoke to whose English was not her first language, was the one that put me on hold for a while, and then the phone call got cut off and she didn't call back. And then, when I called back, I did get a lady that spoke English, and that's when it was late in the afternoon and she transferred me to somebody to reschedule. And it was 5:00 and I just hung up after a while. But in the end, it turned out okay.

They said the issue was simple and fixed it. I've been with AHS for about five years and we’ve had a lot of things done over the years. We’ve had appliances replaced and next week, we’re gonna have a plumber come. I tried another company once and they were a little harder to deal with so I went back to AHS. I filed a claim to American Home Shield for the sink in the kitchen. We couldn't use it so we couldn't wash dishes because it would clog all up. Clear Flow came out first. They came out to look at my air conditioning and then I had to call American Home Shield back and tell them the problem was not fixed.

AHS sent Steinberg out and they completed the work. When I originally called, I had problems with the sink in the kitchen and in my bathroom. The young man supposedly should've cleared the thing in the bathroom, but it seems like I still get some water slow down up there. But when the guy from Steinberg came on Saturday, I wasn’t even thinking about that. We just needed to get the kitchen going. And so, I still have a little bit of issue with the sink in the bathroom, but I didn’t want to call the guy back out again to look at it because he was just here. I forgot about having him go back and look at it to make sure that everything was okay up there as well as down here in the kitchen. He worked so hard to try to get this doggone thing going in the kitchen and it just totally slipped my mind.

American Home Shield is quick and easy with good response. I had a light receptacle outside at the front door, and I had an issue with the overhead light in my garage. I was supposed to get a call within 24 hours, but it was probably within two days after that. The contractors that came were excellent though. They were a couple of young guys and they were very solicitous and did a really nice job. I still have a problem with the garage light, and I have since called the contractor and they are due to come back out here on Monday.

I normally submit claims and service requests with American Home Shield online and it has been easy enough to get a service call. Our refrigerator stopped getting cold and it took four days for the contractors to come out. They verified that our refrigerator was broken. We had a cash offer from American Home Shield and we recently put our new refrigerator in. They were gonna give us a completely crappy model compared to what we had. They tried to say it was equal in value, but we looked around and it was clearly not. They offered us a certain amount of money, so we went out and found our exact model for that amount of money. We gotta send in the receipt and we will see how quickly they will reimburse us for it. So far, our experience with them has been really good and I already have recommended them.

The service request number is **. They assigned it to PREMIER APPLIANCE SERVICES. Today it is 3/28/2019, even after 52 days both of the appliances are not fixed. Premier asks me to call AHS to order parts etc, and AHS calls me that Premier hasn't sent the part request or ordered wrong parts. I am just calling them in the endless loop. Immediately upon arriving the tech said AHS wouldn’t cover it. I paid the company they sent out, FULL PRICE for the repair and AHS still charged me $100 for the service call, because even if the customer pays full price, the contracted company still is allowed to bill the call fee. Since I paid the company that was sent, AHS should have not been billed for the repair, but they still collected from me. As a result I canceled my warranty and then they, set me up for nonrenewal instead of cancellation and charged me for an additional month of service.

Recently, the heat stopped working and it tripped off our electric thermostat. There was a burning smell, so I super panicked about it. It was over a weekend and I scheduled an appointment with American Home Shield online. Alpha Heating got back to me to schedule an appointment on a Sunday, which I didn’t expect. It was really great. The guys came in on Monday and there was a little part that needed to be replaced. They did that and everything was back up and running within 20 minutes after they got here.

We've had a couple of claims. There was also a toilet and a downstairs bathroom leaking, so we had a claim for that, and it was another super easy fix. The guy that came over was really nice. He didn’t find anything the first time. We were still having the leaking problem and it was really easy to go back online and say, "Hey, I need a follow up on this thing." He came over again, with no charge, and he was able to find it that time. We had the actual location of where the water was on the floor, so it pointed him in the right direction. My experience with American Home Shield has been way easier than I thought it would be, especially being able to file claims online. It is definitely a huge peace of mind. They should have somebody to get the phone more efficiently and quickly or to let us put our phone number in and get a return call. But if I called the department where we make the claim, they would give me a return call which I really appreciate because my time is valuable. I wish they would do that when we're calling to have them out originally. I have learned recently that there are different contracts for different people. I am debating about canceling the service 'cause in three years, I've only used them three times. It's costing me nearly $1,000 a year to have the home warranty, and if there was a cashback for not using them or an incentive to avoid using them, it would be a great way to retain business. It would also help if they have a dedicated application for smartphones. Overall American Home Shield is an excellent service that gives peace of mind. The person from Discount Contractors came 2 days after we sent a request and assessed it and also found additional issue that we weren’t exactly aware of as well. He was really informative. He also gave some advice and mitigation that we could use going forward.

2 Sons Plumbing handled my situation very well. The problem was that American Home Shield couldn't tell me really whether or not the problem was coverage. They were like, "Is it an outside problem or an inside problem?" I had to arrange for our landscaping service to come out and check, which I then had to pay for and wait so that I didn't waste my time. If AHS had more knowledge about it, they could have given me greater assurance and I wouldn't have paid $150 for someone to come out and tell me what they suspected anyway.

American Home Shield is costly, and I don’t like that you have to pay a service fee before somebody comes out. Recently the water in my sink was draining onto the floor, and the first contractor that was supposed to be coming out to do the plumbing never showed up. I talked to a guy from AHS and he called the tech guy, who said that he was at the emergency room. I told the gentleman I was speaking to not to send that tech. That was when they contacted Rapp’s, who I had dealt with before. The tech came out Monday on the scheduled time and resolved everything quickly.

I just recently signed with this company, and it was the worst mistake I could of made. My hot water tank was leaking into an electrical box, which leaked all over my carpet into my bathroom floor. I called on a Sunday and the rep. said she would have someone come out at 8 am. They came at 12 (AZ Remodeling and Plumbing - worst company ever) paid $100.00 just to take a picture and never return. I'm still waiting till this day. American Home Shield says they will call me back and I never get a callback. Every rep. says, "Oh the quote has been submitted" or, "It has been submitted but it still needs to go through another department." Then you have to wait 5-7 business day and AZ Remodeling will call you to schedule. Really, I have a water tank leaking into an electrical box. I would never do this again. This company is more of a headache for a customer than anything. I wouldn't give this company any reviews.

Updated on 06/07/2019: I have had American Home Shield for about three months. My first call was in regards to my sump pump and the first technician came out and told me I had a electrical problem without doing any diagnosis. It wasn’t until after I did a follow up wasn’t it fixed. Next I had a small leak from my outside faucet and the technician again tried convincing me it was an issue. Only after a follow up was it fixed. Finally I showed a technician I have slow drainage and again I was told I don’t have a mechanical issue. I am not sure why but it seems as if they don’t fix the issue at first try. Quite frustrating when paying a big amount for the service you would expect.

Original Review: I had someone come out to my house to check why the sump pump was not working. He barely spent 2 minutes looking at it and did not even attempt at fixing it. I was told I had a electric problem without even trying. When I called to get help through customer service I was told I would be charged another fee.

Sunday my dryer stopped working. I called in a service. The contractor assigned to me was out of town until Thursday and not accepting any calls. This is when everything fell apart. I called AHS to get a contractor out BEFORE Thursday. The call center in the Philippines is incompetent. My broken dryer was reassigned to Sears Warranty Company - which does not even handle AHS work orders. However, I did not know that at the time. The agent told me that I had an appointment on Weds. (today) between 10 - 12 pm.

As no one showed up I called AHS to find out the status. The first agent said I had no appointment schedules at all today, BUT the repair had been assigned to Sears Warranty. She gave me their phone number and put me on hold to check their availability. I was subsequently disconnected. I called the number for Sears the agent gave me. They had no idea about a work order for my dryer, nor do they work with AHS.

My second call today to AHS was again to an agent in the Philippines. He wanted to argue about the notes under my claim. Stating that they were the ones who notified me that the first contractor was not available. This is when I found out that the 'customer agents' document the facts however they want to and not how things happened. After explaining to him what really transpired, I asked to be transferred to a Supervisor to relay issues that need addressed in training their agents, AND to determine if I have a repair person coming to fix my dryer with Sears as I have been told. The agent left me on HOLD FOR 40 min without getting back to me whatsoever. I hung up and called back.

The third agent I spoke to next, again in the Philippines told me again that the work order had been reassigned to Sears Warranty. I advised her that I called Sears, the number they gave me, and they DO NOT work on AHS covered appliances. She insisted that it was Sears and then gave me a second appointment time for tomorrow at 1 - 5 pm. She stated that this appointment was just made today... I asked her to double check because Sears says they don't work on AHS appliances. Then somehow she discovered that it was NOT Sears after all but another appliance company. She then gave me their number to contact. At least this agent got me over to a supervisor in a timely manner afterwards.

I still am not sure if I have an appointment or not because I can't go by what their customer service agents say. Today I have wasted 5 hours of my time, unpaid, experienced great stress and anxiety dealing with the AHS call center in the Philippines. What is so frustrating to me is - if I did my job like this here - I would be fired.

I joined in December 2018. They offered an AC tune up special in February 2019 at an extra cost on top of the monthly fee I paid. I called to take advantage of the offer and everything ran smoothly. They set up an appointment with the HVAC people that they use in my area. The HVAC company called and scheduled an appointment. I took a half day off of work and met the guy, who showed up on time and did the tune ups on both my AC units. He discovered a bad compressor on the small upstairs unit and told me to call American Home Shield and let them know. I let them know the HVAC guy that they sent out said I needed a new compressor. A woman from the company called and an appointment was set up for the next day between 12 and 5.

Again I took a half day off of work and waited.. and waited... and waited. About 10 until 5 I called and was told that I was on the list but it didn’t look like they were going to be able to make it out today. I called and had to track down the problem. So I had taken the financial hit on the loss of the second half day of work and no one even had the courtesy to call and tell me they weren’t coming. After I was told by the HVAC company that no one was coming I called American Home Shield. I waited nearly 30 minutes on hold to talk with someone. When I spoke with the representative she apologized but made no effort to make the mistake right or compensate me in any way.

Long story short, when I was paying them, everything ran smoothly. They called, scheduled, showed up on time and my credit card was charged by American Home Shield automatically. When I had what was going to certainly be an fairly expensive fix, they called and scheduled, never showed up and made me track them down to find out that they decided not to come. So you be the judge. I subsequently cancelled my membership. I don’t have time to get jacked around by American Home Shield and their repair associates. I can’t afford to keep taking off of work in hopes that somebody may or may not show up. I have no use for a company that when a mistake is made, does not want your long term business enough to reach out and make things right.

Normally I don't write reviews but I feel that I need to assist someone in making an informed decision. I've been an AHS customer for some years and I've previously had all good experiences but this is the WORSE! I requested repair for my A/C as it was not cooling, one of their contract companies come out 9/2018 to repair my unit. They added stop leak and refrigerant. The refrigerant that I had to pay $500 for because AHS doesn't cover but like $10 per pound all leaked out as the stop leak didn't work. The contracting company told me they would put in a request and recommendation to have my coils replaced since this is the part of the unit that was leaking.

As of 3/27/2019 this has not been completed. I started calling once a week just this month and they kept telling me that they were having a hard time getting in contact with the original contracting company and would transfer to another company. Fast forward the new company comes out last week and I tell the technician what's going on with the unit. He's able to verify that the coils do have holes and he can see where they leaked and took pictures of the coils to make a recommendation repair and send to AHS.

I'm not sure if AHS is trying NOT to cover this or the technician wrote the report up lacking details but I receive a call today from the new contractor to come and add sealant and refrigerant and they want me to pay $270? Why? So that $270 can leak over my attic walls again? I'm highly disappointed with AHS and how they have handled this and why they didn't send out a contractor sooner or approve the coils back 5 months ago. If you have a leaky faucet this warranty is excellent that's about as much as it appears to be good for.

Updated on 04/13/2019: Like I mentioned in the 2 month without a refrigerator review just with some additions. Like when American Home Shield offered $1000 for a new refrigerator but ours cost is $2400 so we said we said we want it fixed. After 2 months without a refrigerator they called to say the part will be here two weeks ago on Tuesday. The repairman came out and said it's not his job to fix it because it is under warranty so they need to send someone else instead. Call for an appointment.

The next week a person came out to look at the refrigerator. The person said they need to order parts. He also said he hopes the parts he orders works. Well so do we. After 3 months without a refrigerator we hope so too. American Home Shield gets free parts so they will not give a new one when they can get the parts obviously. Wish we never joined. Can we get our money back, or how about just a refrigerator that works. Sure would be nice to have ice cream sometime soon.

Original Review: The first time the person came out he ordered a part. The second time he came with the part but could not repair it. Then he yelled at my wife and told her to shut up, then people called the police on your inspector for being caught going through the house. Then American Home Shield called and sent a new person out. The new person ordered a compressor. Then American called and said they will replace the refrigerator. Then they called and said they will fix it. Then after 7 weeks with no refrigerator we called and they offered partial payment instead of full replacement or I can have it repaired. I said repair it then. Now 2 months and no refrigerator. American Home Shield subs out to the worst and cheapest service people. The worst company. Never use them. Or do use them so you can find out what a scam they are.

My compressor went out on my refrigerator. My refrigerator made no noise prior to the contractor, Runyon Appliance, repairing my refrigerator. Now the compressor makes a surging and buzzing noise. I called the contractor and AHS and was told that the warranty does not cover "noise". The contractor came out and stated it was the compressor making the noise. I asked him if the surging uses more electricity and received no response. The contractor stated that they can only put in the type of compressor that AHS allows. I am woken up multiple times a night due to the sound. Why am I paying for a warranty and a service call to only receive dollar store repairs.

When I called another company, the company came over and fixed the problem. That was very easy. They didn’t have a lot of issues for that. I'm just paying $100 for the service from AHS and another $150 for another company. Just for a bathroom, it's $250 for just changing the ring, and that’s it.

I went down in the crawl space to shut the water off to replace the valve on the refrigerator so that I can get ice and water to come through it. I had a leaky valve, and when I was down there, I noticed that one of the water lines was dripping. I went online and filed a claim with American Home Shield. I do everything online with them. It's easier to do it that way. I can do it while I’m at work and working on other things.

American Home Shield sent me another company at first. But when the lady called me, she was extremely rude. And when I told her that I had a crawl space, she told me that she has large men and that nobody would be able to fit. I thought that was ridiculous. I fit in there and my dad fits in there. It’s a small opening, but once you get in there, it’s not bad. It’s large actually. She said, “Well, I’m gonna have to call American Home Shield.” So, while she did that, we got off the phone, I also got online with AHS. And they said, “Well, they’re trying to see if they have someone small enough to fit. So, if you can wait on that.” I was thinking, “No. I have a dripping pipe. I don’t want it to burst and flood my crawl and make matters worse.” She said, “Or I can send you another company.” And they did, which was Ready Jetter.

Kevin reached out to me almost immediately. He came over and looked at the crawl. Because it was raining and my dryer vent was disconnected, and I had the dryer on, he said, “I can’t really get in there today. Don’t do laundry for the next couple days, let it air out, and I’ll come back.” So, I went in and reconnected the dryer vents and let the air out down there. He came back on Tuesday, went in, and fixed what he had to fix. Everything has been okay with AHS, so far. The lady I chatted with on there recently was freaking amazing. The first lady I chatted with was not so much. I really didn’t care for her. But the second lady was very helpful.

I've been with American Home Shield for almost 10 years now, and I prefer submitting a claim online. The website navigation is fine. However, my experience with them has been hit or miss. Sometimes they're responsive but sometimes, they're delayed in getting repair people out to the house. There was a time that in the middle of winter, the heat had been going out and I was told that the first available person wouldn’t be until a week later. That was unacceptable. So I had to make phone calls and they relented and allowed me to find a contractor of my own. Even so, they were able to reimburse me for that. Everything was paid through the contractor. I was responsible for the deductible to do that, but they should automatically make that referral out as opposed to giving me some ridiculous timeframe and then making me have to go through the hurdle of contacting AHS and then arguing with people to try to get another contractor.

I've had some techs who were phenomenal and do quality work. And then, I've also had others who came out for the water heater but I was literally calling the next day because it had an issue again. So the techs had to come back out but they didn’t fix it. The neighbor did. I ended up paying the deductible. Overall, I've had mixed results as far as performance of the contract. I have been researching to find another home warranty company.

When I had water coming out on the front door of my washer, I called American Home Shield to submit my claim. I'm not an online request type person and calling is usually simple enough. Plus, when I call, I go straight through. I let them know the issue and they assigned someone and let me know when the contractor was gonna call. I had to call the contractor before they called me since I wanted to make sure I get the right date. When I called Surfside Appliances, they had received the ticket and scheduled the repair on the same week I called. I called early in that week and we scheduled the initial evaluation of the appliance on Friday. It was a matter of my time and availability. I had to schedule for the end of the week.

The contractor was wonderful. He was on time and very professional. I explained to him what the issues were and he knew right away what the problem would probably be. He knew without even looking at it. Then he opened the door of the washing machine, identified the issue and he showed me exactly what it was. He also looked at the dishwasher and I explained the funny noise. He ran multiple cycles, but before he did he said that there was a part that made that type of noise. He knew exactly what it could be. Then he checked and confirmed it. Then when the part came on the following week, he called right away and let me know the part was there. We scheduled on Thursday, he came out and did whatever he needed to do and he was out. Everything has been working perfectly.

American Home Shield has been working for me, thus far. I like that if I have multiple issues and they are under the same category, I don't have to use multiple service calls. However, if it is an electrical or plumbing problem plus an appliance problem, then I have to have multiple service calls with multiple service fees, which is the problem. It would be nice if the service fee could be combined if the service calls are within a certain window of time. I could have called about the washer a long time ago, but because I knew that my refrigerator was making noise and there are some other issues, I waited until I could identify the other issues so I can group it all under one service call.

I had a dishwasher that was not heating the water, and it wasn’t heating to dry the dishes in the cycle. I submitted a claim online and it was straightforward and easy doing that. I'm usually on the road. That's one of the reasons I went with American Home Shield. I'm usually at work or out of town when my wife tells me there's something that needs to be fixed. The way it usually works and the way American Home Shield has it set up is the technician comes to the home, confirms what's broken and what parts are needed and then you wait until American Home Shield sends the parts. Then you have a second visit where they put in the repair parts. In this case, when they put the parts back together, another part was not working.

So they came back a third time and found that there was a connection that was not right and they left. To see that it works, you have to run a cycle which is at least an hour long. And the light did not come on after the cycle was completed. I asked them back a fourth time and they determined that the light part had failed, and it was also possibly a bad control board. The replacement control board was bad. So, they ordered parts again, and we waited again. The fifth time was a charm. They put the second replacement board in and replacement part for the light and it worked as well.

When they replaced the control board the first time, the heating of the water and the heating to dry did function properly. But the light no longer worked after. What I'm not happy with is, being in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, parts are readily available here. And having to wait for American Home Shield to send the parts just adds more downtime on whatever it is that needs to be fixed. We just washed our dishes by hand until they replaced the control board the first time. And after they fixed it the first time, the dishwasher would clean the dishes. You just couldn't tell when it was done because it's a stainless steel unit where nothing shows on the outside. They have a light that shines on the floor when the cycle is complete. And the unit is so quiet that you have to lean down and listen to it or open it up to see if it's done.

And when you open it up, if it's still doing the heated drying, you just lose all that heat by opening it up. I wanted the light fixed as well. But after they replaced the control board the first time, we were getting our clean dishes. We just had to let it go until we were sure it was done. I'm not happy with the parts situation, but I still recommend American Home Shield to friends and family. It's always been worth our money over the years. And I am happy with Appliance Rx. If something breaks, I would want them back.

I went to Home Depot and I paid for the new microwave oven, and they guarantee they will install on the sixth of next month. But I’m very pleased with American Home Shield. I’m going to add a couple of houses that I have to the program.

After my dryer stopped working, I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I really needed the dryer but it was Saturday then and the person I spoke to told me that they have no one to send out since it was a weekend. I felt that they should have set up an appointment then but I was told that somebody would contact me the following Monday to do that. Someone did call me on Monday and the repair company came out on Tuesday. The repair company that came was very prompt, professional, and they were able to fix the issue.

I called American Home Shield and told them I was having issues with our refrigerator which stopped making ice. When I push the water dispenser, it would stop working. Eventually, it just stopped cooling and kept getting warmer and warmer, until finally, we just pulled all the food out of it and unplugged it. We’re brand new to AHS. One of my dearest friends uses them and heat is over in Hondo where we had our real problems. He said AHS is the best thing he ever got and that it’s great, especially as you get older. I never heard anybody complain about them. So, we contacted the company and they put in a request for us. They took a $100 deductible, and then they had a company got back in touch with us just a few days later. A different company then actually did the repair because the first company they sent out didn’t work on that type of freezer. So they send the second folks out, which was Restore Home Service. They were nice people.

Their tech checked our refrigerator out and said there's a problem with the compressor. He explained all the compressor issues. I guess our friends at Sears decided to change from Whirlpool to LG and put in inferior components and they’re having all these problems with these customers all of a sudden. So this is a well-documented fiasco from our friends at Sears. Also, I guess they had to do whatever to get a component ordered, they went through his explanation. So I called up the company because it was taking a little bit and asked what was happening. He told me they've got the part already and that they're just waiting for the approval.

They finally contacted us and said they got our part in. They set up the appointment for Dylan to come in and set it in on a Tuesday. He actually got here three hours early, which I thought was cool. He sat down and explained exactly what the other guy had explained to my wife. They had agreed that the refrigerator would get fixed for the initial problems, which I thought was outstanding. He did the job. It turned it on, and it’s cooling, but it’s just not working properly yet. So I called and talked to them again today, and the owner of the company who had called me back explained the EOP with these.

They're putting in smaller compressors that don’t work as hard which is supposedly, saving me money. This is asinine because based off from my understanding of mechanics, again, been a car dealer for 34 years, why would you put something that’s operating its highest capacity to work, when you can put something a little bit bigger, maybe not totally energy-efficient, but it’s gonna last longer and work better. Still, their rep explained it’s gonna take a few more days to get it cold enough for everything to work properly in the system. He told me to make sure that nobody opens the doors or anything else, and that he would follow-up with me next Tuesday, between 3:00 to 5:00, unless everything corrected itself and then to please give them a call. That was all done very professionally and straightforwardly. I’m very pleased with the service.

I started with American Home Shield last year and right now they're good. They’ve been a company I’m willing to stay with for a little bit longer if I have no issues. It’s a very easy process going to the website for a service request, but getting on the phone is a different story. They could improve their customer service wait time which sometimes is way too long. There should be a callback where you can just put your number in and they call you back when they’re ready. There are a lot of small local companies that they use, which is totally fine, but I would want bigger companies than the small mom-and-pop shops. Some of the prices I got from the mom-and-pop shops are a little bit more inflated than the bigger companies.

I've had good and bad experiences with the people I worked with that I called. Grade A was for my sump pump, and they came over and did an assessment on my sump pump and my French drain ‘cause I was getting flooding. The guy was okay, but I called a second person for a second opinion and Grade A’s estimate was a little more excessive than my second opinion. Another time, one of the contractors came to my house, but they never called or texted me to say they were coming. They stayed on the driveway and called American Home Shield to say they were here. Other companies would text me saying, “I’m on my way,” and it works great. It all depends on the contractors that AHS uses and their level of customer service. I sometimes have beef with some of the customer service reps, but majority of the time when I call them, they’re great.

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my pool's filter. It was an easy process. They sent a repair company out and that company determined that the filter was leaking. They went back, talked to American Home Shield and suggested to take the filter apart to see if it can be fixed or if it needed to be replaced. They then came back the following week, took the filter apart, and confirmed that it was broken and that they couldn't fix it. They left the filter like that, took the part, and came back on Monday to replace it. So, getting the approval took a couple of weeks.

One thing about American Home Shield is that the deductible went up by $10. I had a warranty last year and I just renewed it but I wasn't informed of the increase. I only found out about it when I filed a claim and talked to somebody on the InstaMessage. I told him that I wasn't informed of the increase but all he told me was that he was sorry about that but the deductible went up for everybody. I think that that is something that should be declared at a renewal. Even so, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I'm weary of American Home Shield. Our contract says they can't do certain things, but I can never get a hold of anybody. I've been on hold for 30 to 45 minutes and it's very exhausting. I have friends who have been with American Home Shield whose AC unit got replaced whereas we have been dealing with the company for 16 years and every summer we go without air. Last summer, we went without air for about three weeks in Jacksonville, Florida when it was about 90 degrees outside and my husband is diabetic and has a heart condition. We went back and forth last summer to the point that my husband even wrote a letter to the president but never got a response. We were at the end of our rope and we don’t have the money to stay in a hotel or buy a new air conditioning unit. They were gonna give us $150 towards a window unit, but that won't buy one.

It seems like the money that I've spent since being a client of American Home Shield for 16 years on monthly fees, service charges for this air conditioner, repair work and what they’d spent, they could have bought us a new air conditioning unit years ago and be done with it. Total Air Care, on the other hand, has been awesome. The deal, however, was that I would call them and they would tell me that they're waiting for approval from American Home Shield. I would then call American Home Shield and hold with them for 30 minutes before I got somebody on the phone, and they would say that they've not heard from Total Air Care and they couldn't do anything until they get the contractor's report. That went on for 10 days - back and forth. I had to threaten to get an attorney to make them handle the situation and get it taken care of. The minute I said that, within the next day, they had somebody out here to fix it.

I've also had some issues, like plumbing, and the people American Home Shield sends out are not bad. The contractors have done what they were supposed to do. I just get tired of having to try to get in touch with American Home Shield. For the money I pay, I'm dissatisfied with my experience with them and I wouldn’t recommend them at all. I'm over them.

My wife wanted a home warranty. We've always had one, but we weren't very happy with it. American Home Shield was recommended and we've been happy with them. I've been calling to submit claims and the representatives have been good. However, we had some issues. Part of it was my fault, too. We had problems with our water heater and with the boiler. We would sometimes get referred to plumbers. One plumber came to work on the water heater and said that it was a problem with the boiler. So, AHS sent someone else to work on the boiler, who then said that it was a problem with the water heater.

We realized there was a leak where the water comes into the house. The plumber who came out said that they needed a well company to look at it even though it was a pipe in the basement in the house. It took a while to get the well company. There has been a lot of confusion about which parts are those of the plumbing system and which parts are those of a different plumbing system. When the parts are connected, there are problems with both of them or problems with one or the other. It finally ended up that our water heater needed to be replaced. When AHS replaced it, it was so corroded inside that they couldn't even drain it. They had to rebuild in some of the holes in it and there were huge gobs of dust in there.

The first contractor would come and look at it or they would come and change one part, then they would say that if that doesn't fix it, they would try something else. There was a problem with the last contractor who finally came and it was a mess. He fixed everything, but he said he has been having problems getting payment from AHS because the first contractors used up our allotment for the system. He got a verbal okay ahead of time from someone but now, he is having problems. He just mentioned it in passing, but it was a headache. The contractor is still trying to figure out how to get payment from AHS, but everything is fixed.

Dealing with customer service has been very good and we like AHS better than our old company because they would have just denied everything. The callers are good at customer service and there are little problems with not understanding the different systems, but they are always willing to help and listen. So, the call center of AHS is that good. AHS is the best home warranty company we've been with and it is head and shoulders above the other one we were with.

It took them four months, after having them approve our own expert come, to finally say that radiant heat wasn't even covered under our warranty. What a waste of time -- tens and tens of hours. They refunded the service fee which was the least they could do. The only way I got real answers was to write a Facebook message, and then they answered my questions on Facebook Messenger as a direct line.

Buyer beware! Home warranty companies are for-profit organizations. You will pay more into it than you get out of it. This is a business and they are out to make money like every other business. They are not really out to help the homeowner. They will charge you a "reasonable" rate. Something you feel that is not much a month compared to paying for an air conditioning system. But, if you file a claim, you will pay MUCH more out of pocket than you expect. Based on my experience with AHS over the past 24 months, they send poor-quality contractors to your house and will not help you when they do sloppy work. AHS sent out a contractor 2 years ago who damaged the suction line on my heat pump while replacing the compressor. The technician admitted to melting a copper coating from the line. The coating is necessary to make a good seal. He created a leak that cannot be permanently repaired.

I have made AHS aware of this multiple times. I have had 2 contractors (one AHS sent, and one I chose) look at the unit within the past 10 days and agree the unit could be "fixed", but only temporarily. So, based on the ability to "fix" the unit, AHS has offered me $245 for repairs. The (temporary) "repair" costs over $1,000. Then, I get to do the same repairs again in a few months when it starts leaking again, just like it has done 3 times in the past 24 months. I can't afford to keep paying $800 once or twice a year AND pay American Home Shield $715/year on top of that. I did the only reasonable thing and paid $3200 out of my pocket to replace the heat pump, hoping AHS would be fair and pay a portion of the replacement. They are choosing to repay me $245 (their original offer for repair costs) and lose me as a customer.

You are better off putting $50-60/month in a savings account. But, if you must have a home warranty, please do some research. Most good reviews are from people that didn't file a claim or filed a big one within the few year and got real value from their investment. For the most part, home warranty is a waste and especially a home warranty from American Home Shield.

Updated on 03/29/2019: I previously posted a review about trying to get AHS to repair my refrigerator (it's been more than 2 weeks). They have marked the review Resolution in Progress or something like that. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The company sent me an email asking me to call (guess they couldn't find my phone number?) and this week alone, I have spent more than 2 hours on the phone with AHS customer service reps, left four voicemails and sent 2 emails. No response except the one email saying - please call us.

Based on this experience, I believe the corporate strategy is to make me so frustrated that I will give up and pay for the repair myself. Notice that the responses to all of the negative reviews use the exact same words. Just like the verbal responses I get when I call and ask to speak to a supervisor. Then they put me on hold for 15-60 minutes and come back and say that they are sorry but the supervisor is still not available.

It shouldn't be so hard to get a simple answer on why they refuse to fix the refrigerator. I have done my part - I paid the fees, I called when the email asked me to call to discuss. AHS - do your part. I truly wish they would post the one-star reviews on the AHS website because all of the reviews they post make everything look easy. Don't risk it. If you must have a home warranty, FIND ANOTHER COMPANY.

Original review: I am not sure how to get American Home Shield's attention. It appears that the employees read from a script and when you ask a question not covered by the script, the answer is "I understand" and then they go back to the script. My refrigerator has been broken for more than 2 weeks. AHS promptly sent out a technician who diagnosed the problem and said that it was covered under the KitchenAid warranty so AHS won't fix the refrigerator (after I paid the service fee of course).

KitchenAid will fix the refrigerator but charge me another service fee (double the AHS fee) because they won't accept another technician's diagnosis. So I would have been better off not having AHS because at least the refrigerator would be fixed - and only one fee, with only 30 minutes on the phone instead of the more than 2 hours I have spent trying to get out of the catch-22. The AHS warranty was part of our home purchase but lesson learned...if the appliances are new and still under warranty, AHS does NOTHING for you - except charge a service fee.

It was the door that had to be replaced and he came out and fixed it. The problem was resolved and now, everything is okay. We are very happy with the outcome. AHS was very helpful. We filed the claim online, and it was simple and straightforward. I logged in to our account and I had no issues. Since it was our first time filing a claim, when we got the letter saying that the service would not be covered, it was a bit shocking and we didn’t know what to make out of it. However, we had a chance to have the problem resolved and we had a good experience. Hopefully, this was just an isolated event and it’s not something that happens all the time.

Our furnace was making a grinding sound. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield over the phone and that process was very easy. The techs from the contractor, Dawson Services, came out that afternoon and they were very professional. They said the problem was with the bearing of the furnace, so they replaced the motor with the fan in it. They ordered the part that day, then they came back the following day and completed the job. The repair was fast and easy. That was my first time working with American Home Shield and I was very happy and pleased with the results.

I just moved into my home and was just getting the locks changed. That was one of the services offered with my American Home Shield warranty. I contacted them online to set up the service and it was really easy using their website. I was done in less than a minute after logging in. Almost immediately, like maybe 20 minutes, someone from their contractor Pop-A-Lock of Baltimore contacted me. She was able to come the same day because I had other services being done that day. She was done changing all the of the locks in my home and it wasn't even an hour. There were three doors and they had two locks each. I had Comcast there and she was done before Comcast was finished doing what they had to do. I was very pleased and with no complaints.

Also, it was convenient that American Home Shield was able to give me an invoice for my closing. I had actually looked into other warranties and they were not able to do that for me. I hope not to have to utilize American Home Shield but it's there as an insurance or comfort for me knowing that I'm covered in the event that anything happens. I will definitely refer my friends over to AHS as they are in the initial of purchasing new homes.

My water heater stopped producing hot water and since it’s covered, I went online to file a claim for it. That was very quick. The response time was incredible. It went out on Friday and I had an appointment set up for Saturday morning with City Plumbing. That was absolutely excellent customer service on the part of American Home Shield. However, the gentleman who came out from City Plumbing took one look at my Whirlpool water heater and told me that he couldn't touch it. All Whirlpool water heaters were under recall. I said okay and asked him what I had to do. He told me that he could give me the number or that he could make a call. Since I paid the $75 fee, I thought he could at least make a phone call for me.

He spent about 40 minutes on the phone and it turned out that my heater wasn’t one of the models under recall. After that, he proceeded to do what I thought would fix it. He had an issue that there was a drain pan underneath. But I told him I didn’t place it there, that I needed some water and to please do what he needed to do to get to it. He apparently fixed it and had it running, and everything was fine. But it lasted less than 24 hours. Specifically, one sink-full of dishes and one shower – that was as much hot water we had. The indicator light was flashing the same problem signal that it had previously, that the burner grate needed to be cleaned.

So I called American Home Shield back on Sunday but I told them that I was not paying another $75 fee to have somebody come out and they said that was fine. The staff was fantastic. They were very kind on the phone and I’ve been very pleased with American Home Shield. But I have two kids and we had to have showers for school. I had to reach out to City Plumbing at 8:30 on Monday morning and they had somebody able to come out between 10:00 and noon that day.

The one who came out that time was a different gentleman and he was more customer-friendly. He cleaned the burner grate and resolved the issue. The water heater has been working since Monday. But I have an appointment for them to return on Tuesday to continue to help diagnose and solve the problem. Apparently, there is something else that they need to figure out. He said that the heater might stop operating again. But so far, everything is working okay and he also showed me a workaround that I can do until they can come back.

We call American Home Shield to submit our claims and our interaction with their claims reps has been phenomenal. We recently had an issue with the AC, and a repair guy from Total Air Care came out to do the repair. He had to replace the control panel and he did a fantastic job. And the AC will be ready to rock and roll for the summertime. The guy had recommended putting a pound of Freon in the unit. So, it’s not cooling now but we’ve had cooler weather here in Louisiana over the past couple of weeks, so I’m gonna hold off on the Freon until we start getting some hot weather.

We also had a plumber come out, and he was from New Orleans, which was not a problem. He was a very nice guy as well. He said he would be here between 10:00 and 2:00, so there was an expected time there. And I told him to come at 8:30 in the morning the latest time, and he came at 8:30. Overall, having this warranty for our house has been phenomenal. Our house was built in 1967, and it has the original AC unit. With an older home that’s got some issues like this one does, the warranty is absolutely valuable.

We've had American Home Shield for at least 20 years now and it's remarkable that we've only had one bad experience with a man. Other than that, all contractors have all been very good and prompt. They have up to 48 hours to contact us and they usually do that within the first 24, so that’s very good. And if there’s going to be a delay because of a part, then they’re really straightforward about that, because that’s usually out of their control. Aeon Blue Pool and Spa was sent out for our pool pump that was leaking and they got here really quick. They were very professional and they repaired it.

We have American Home Shield not only on our primary home but also on our rentals, and we’re very pleased with them. I generally call in since I feel better if I talk to somebody and they’ve always been very helpful. If I request a company that we’ve had good service with before, they honor that if that company’s still signed up with them. So, I’m highly impressed. We’re not just stuck with whoever they happen to send and that really makes me feel good ‘cause it helps to build a relationship with the service people that come out. When we had to replace a washer, American Home Shield was very helpful in that. They’re consumer-oriented which is great. I want them to keep up the good work and just keep doing what they’re doing. Also, I have recommended them to several people.

My experience with American Home Shield was not that great. I called about a plumbing issue late last week. The drain on the bathtub basically broke and I needed it replaced. The drain where the stuff pops up on the sink also broke. But American Home Shield's website and phone system don’t have a way to detail it like that. If it is a plumbing issue, there are only eight or 10 options. I looked at the drain category and went with as close as I could get. American Home Shield called my property manager and set up an appointment. Then the plumber showed up but he said that he was just there to look at the drain. He said that if I wanted the issue fixed, it was gonna cost a whole lot more and that it was not gonna be through the warranty.

American Home Shield also charged me a fee every time that somebody was sent out even though nothing was really done. Then with whatever trade goes out, it seems like there is not very good communication between whoever is actually assigned to get the job done – between the owner and the plumber or the owner and the carpenter. The last two contractors were not as flexible for scheduling either. I have a rental and I use the warranty for the tenants to make sure that things are taken care of right away. But they work, go to school and have different scheduling, and the contractors were not as flexible to make those calls, whether it would be after five or on a Saturday.

American Home Shield also keeps sending my tenant authorization charge for these things. But he’s not the owner. He’s just a tenant. It’s not his money. He shouldn’t be approving that. I just have to rectify a few issues. But American Home Shield has been good to me. It is nothing that they have lacked in their service or in their timing. It has to do with their third party vendors.

American Home Shield wouldn't let me try a different provider, and it would've been nice if I could have called a different provider to see if somebody was available sooner. Nonetheless, the plumber that came was very knowledgeable and efficient. It was hard assessing one of the leaks, so I appreciated his persistence. Plus it didn't take even an hour for him to get everything done. I have to do a little bit of caulking myself, but I don't mind. The repairman came out and tried this part, then tried that part. He said that all this time, he knew exactly what part the refrigerator needed, but AHS would not approve the purchase of those parts.

I've had to take off of work five times, sit at home for four hours waiting for the serviceman to come after throwing away two refrigerators of groceries because the refrigerator stopped working and the food went bad. Recently, I told them that I cannot take off of work anymore and the last two visits were after 5 PM. And I am not sure that my issue has been resolved even at this point. I just noticed last night that the inside panel of my refrigerator was so hot that it was like it would burn the skin off your hand. I first called them over 3 weeks ago to get my refrigerator repaired or replaced. We moved into this home less than a year ago and the appliance was left from prior owner. Took a week to even get anyone out to diagnose it. As I expected-compressor was bad and the coolant had all leaked out. He quoted over 1000 to fix it. 2 weeks (and several phone calls to AHS later), the claim had still not been sent to the authorization department. Reportedly, the technician had not submitted the reports-but they had spoken with them verbally and got the diagnosis. AHS also made no effort to call the technician until I called them. Then they get the reports. And then AHS delays it further-wanting the technician to call them back about whether the part is under warranty through LG. Of course it's not, since I was not the original purchaser.

Finally, they decide it should be fixed. But the technician refuses to work with AHS any longer and will not fix the fridge. Can't say I blame him. So now, the process has to start all over with a new repair company. And instead of just paying me the value of the fridge (the appropriate and financially sensible thing to do) based on the diagnosis already provided, I now continue to go without a fridge for whoever knows how long while another company gets to ** around with AHS. And despite multiple calls and requests to speak to managers, I was never allowed to speak to anyone with any kind of authority. Constantly just got the "that's just what has to happen" line. Our home warranty was paid for by the home sellers as part of our negotiations. I will not be renewing the plan with this garbage company when it expires.

This was during a stretch of some very cold weather days. 20 degree weather. The tech had to order a part and came back on 3/6 to install. The furnace worked for maybe 30 mins. I called the company back right away but they didn't get another tech out until 3/7.

He came back, did some cable reinforcement and heat came on again and he left. He stayed on for 20 mins and stopped again. I called the company and they were going to send out a senior tech but not until the next day. Now it's 3/8, the senior tech is only 30 years old comes and checks the voltage and reinforced cables again and heat is on. Again, tech leaves, and heat is on but kicks off again.

I called AHS and was put on hold 3 different times for 15-20 minutes only for the call to disconnect. After calling a 4th time on 3/9, and being asked if I could hold I said no! And explained the issue and asked them to send another company out. The rep that I spoke with Paulyn assured me that they would follow up with Air Max to get a diagnosis and would call me back but to give them until 3/12. I have a reference number for that conversation which begins with ** but I have yet to get a callback and it's now 3/25 and I still don't have a properly working furnace. If I could rate AHS a zero, I would. I was told when signing up we could use a contractor of our choosing, now when we need our furnace fixed/replaced we are told we can't use one we'd like to use. We were not happy being lied to, no one has apologized for the misinformation. We understand that AHS has preferred contractors but the contractor we’d like to use is a preferred contractor for them; just not the “system generated one”. We've been waiting 3 days to hear from their contractor, called the contractor ourselves multiple times as well with no response.

The AHS call center reps have no problem management skills, I've talked to two so far. I asked to speak to a manager, was put on hold for 10 minutes, the rep came back on the line and said he would transfer me. Sat on hold for another 10 minutes then finally hung up. The manager called back, continued to refuse to do anything even after explaining what I was told when we signed up with them AND expressed my concerns for the very poor reviews for the contractor they wanted to send out.

She placed me on hold for another 20 minutes (not exaggerating), came back on the line with no solution what-so-ever AND told me that the contract would not be out until the next day. So we will have gone 4 days without a furnace in 35 degree weather in Central IL. When I mentioned this to the manager, she basically told me it was my fault for starting the claim/service request online; even though I had called minutes after submitting the online request.

Long story short: 1) the call reps and management have no problem solving skills, 2) there is no attempt or desire to assist an upset customer 3) there is no empathy 4) they do not own up to their call rep’s mistakes or even mention reviewing a call for future coaching/training opportunities 5) they blame the customer and take no responsibility for their faults and 6) they could not care less about the well-being of you as their customer, your family or the protection of your home.

The next day, I was referred to a plumber who couldn’t come out for 10 days. I called American Home Shield back and they referred Quality Plumbing. I was glad that American Home Shield had somebody else to refer. It took them about an hour to come up with the next referral but that was quick enough. Quality Plumbing was a good referral. The next day after talking to them, their plumber Greg came out and took care of everything. I really appreciated that because going out without hot water is not too easy. And Greg was a very nice guy, professional and cheerful. I was very happy with him. I was impressed and would highly recommend him.

He worked with the igniters for my tank-less water heater and got them working somehow though he said that they were weak. He got it working long enough, ordered the part and replaced the igniters. So, it's working fine now. That time, I also had other leaks and problems. There was a clog in one toilet and he fixed that in a couple of minutes. It turned out it was a toothbrush. I had a shower that would run water all the time, and he fixed that. I had a sink in one of the bathrooms that was running slow and he snaked that out, cleaned that up and fixed that. We also had a couple of faucets in the kitchen and one bathroom that leaked all around it whenever turned on and off, and he got those fixed up as well. It turned out there was a seal that goes on it too which he replaced. Greg did a really good job.

The lighthouse I got had little plumbing problems. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I did it over the phone. The plumber came over fast and told me how to fix it, and it was easy to do that. The air conditioner problem that I had with both my house in Georgia and here was challenging, though. That was a five-month ordeal and it was painful. We need more people who can fix things but our country is made up of a lot of managers, insurances and a lot of oversights which causes problems when you actually need guys to fix things.

The guy went out to my house in Georgia and diagnosed the problem immediately but American Home Shield didn't work with him. So then, they scheduled some company outta Jacksonville and it took the guy a week or two to get out there and he misdiagnosed the problem. He put sealant in the AC. He didn't listen to what he was told so that company is not a good one. Then, there was still a problem, so then the guy came back out again and same thing. Finally, after some yelling and unpleasant conversations with American Home Shield, they finally got a guy out there who fixed it.

When I looked at the actual investment, I was given 550 bucks a month on that Georgia house. That was the first time I ever had a problem and it took them that long to fix it. I’d be better off with no insurance so, I canceled them. My lighthouse is a little different because I live here but I’ll never use AHS again for another rental property. Overall, American Home Shield is good at fixing simple things but if it’s anything complicated, they’re not very good.

I’ve had American Home Shield for years and everybody has been very nice and they’ve taken care of the problem. I usually submit claims online and it's not a problem especially if somebody is my age. I’m almost 80 so if I can do it, anybody can do it. I get a call fairly soon saying that they are such and such and that they wanna come out and fix our unit.

Here’s the thing that’s kinda frustrating. When our dishwasher stopped working, the gentleman told us to just unplug it and wait 10 minutes, and it should start up again. So we waited 10 minutes and it started up again, and that was $75. But shortly thereafter, the same thing happened again except this time, it wouldn’t work when we unplugged it. He should’ve checked further because that only lasted a few days. He just came in and left. That was kind of throwing up the $75. But other than that, everybody who has ever come here has done very nicely. Everybody has been very nice and even been complimentary on the things in our house.

A new man came out for the dishwasher and I told him what the other technician had done but he wasn’t really interested in what happened before. He checked it out and said that in a few minutes, the light would come on again saying there was an error. We waited a few minutes and it came on then he found an item in the dishwasher that was clogged up. He cleaned that and fixed it, and it’s working fine now. He also told me to call if there’s any problem but I think that has solved the issue.

We had circuit breakers that were tripping. Every time we'd turn on a couple of lights in a room, the breakers would go, “Boot.” Submitting a claim with AHS was a piece of cake. I got online and their website has a drop down menu for the different types of problems where I clicked on circuit breakers. I did that on Saturday and on Monday morning, bright and early, SJDI Electric called me and said they’d be there on Tuesday between 10:00 and 1:30. Then, lo and behold, they reached back to me again and sent me a picture of the guy who was gonna come. His name was Fy so that when we greeted him at the door we’d know exactly who he was ‘cause we had picture of him. So, that was so great. After that, he came out, fixed the problem, explained everything he did to us, and went on his merry way. And we were very happy.

We've been with AHS since July and we've had a couple of issues. They’ve been very responsive any time we've had an issue and the price is reasonable. We pay a service call fee and no matter what it takes to fix a problem, that’s all we pay. So, AHS has been a great service and we love the service. They’ve been very reliable, too. Aside from that, somebody had been out in a very timely manner for our claims. Plus, the ones who came out were professional and fixed the problem each time.

We had a water stain over our shower so we had to have somebody come out to investigate to see if we could find the leak. I filed the claim with American Home Shield online which was super easy and the contractor came the next day. That was really quick. He also communicated really well. He let us know what was going on, what he knew and what he thought. He did a really good job. It was not a plumbing leak but he traced it up to the roof so we had the roof repaired, which was covered under our association.

We've been with American Home Shield for two years now and the customer service that we've received from the company has been outstanding. The technicians that we've dealt with came across as very good. There was one tech, Dennis, that fixed the bathroom and he was extremely good. He knew his job really well. He said that he has been doing it for a number of years and it showed.

But whether we are satisfied with our decision to go with AHS is still up for grabs because of our issue with the ice maker. The tech who repaired it was in and out of here so quickly. It looked like he put some kind of plug in there and the ice maker was good for at least two months, but on the third month it went bad on us again and it doesn’t make ice anymore. But after three months, our warranty with AHS also expired. So, it turns me off right now that the ice maker went out as soon as the warranty expired. So, I bought an ice maker and we went back to the old days when we used the ice tray. In the first two years of our having AHS, I would have rated them very high. But the ice maker issue killed that and put it right in the graveyard. Although we renewed our contract with AHS, that ice maker screws the whole thing out of tune for me and I've blamed myself to some degree since I should have called AFC back and my wife never did that either.

I go online and submit my claims through the American Home Shield website. The process is faster and easier. If there’s an app, then that would be even better. Whenever I try to get on the phone with somebody, it just takes a while before I reach somebody. And a lot of the times, the operators on the line are very simplistic on their action and they’re basically doing the same thing that I’m doing if I go directly on the website.

In a recent claim, I had called Qualified Service Systems to do a checkup on the air conditioner system for me, which they did a good job. They're a qualified local contractor with good experience. And while they were going through the checkup, they found a fault into my AC so I opened a second claim for fixing part of the system. I’m very happy with American Home Shield and their warranty is a great coverage. I bought the house and it had a few issues, and so the warranty has been very good. It was because of the different technicians that AHS was sending out. They all thought it was something different. He even called his boss to ask what in the world is going on. He couldn't figure out why it keeps doing this. The first time he came out was about a little over a year ago, and he has replaced the transformer. The first time, it blew in two months and then it lasted about eight months. We've had the American Home Shield policy since we've purchased our house in August or the beginning of the September 2014. Submitting claims through their service is super easy. We call them. My wife goes online and does it, which is convenient because if it is after hours, she can go on there and fill out the problem and make the deductible payment. Then, someone would call us the next day and we would have somebody out here on the same day. It is usually done in 24 hours and it is done fast. We really like them. We've been impressed with American Home Shield and we intend to keep them because the service is really awesome.

The contractor sent out by American Home Shield for a recent electrical issue was amazing, as well as every contractor that we've had that has had to come out for service. There was a wiring issue with the ceiling fan in the bedroom. It was over wear and tear and the fan came loose. There is a bracket or a brace that the ceiling fan mounts into up in the ceiling and it had broken, so the fan dropped a little and created some sparks. We shut the power off and called American Home Shield. When the contractor came out, he said that the bracket had been broken, but the fan was still good.

It is an expensive fan and we didn’t have to replace it. He made repairs to the wiring and mounted the fan back up good and tight and checked it out. He was very polite and he explained everything really well. Having the policy with American Home Shield is worth it especially if your house is older than 10 years because appliances go bad. Unless you are a journeyman electrician, you will spend thousands of dollars. American Home Shield saves us money.

    Updated review: March 30, 2019

I originally gave AHS 1 star because of the quality of the vendor they sent me and their lack of concern. That electrician wanted to fix the symptom instead of solve the problem (a problem three other electricians from three other electrical companies confirmed). I had a really bad experience with the AHS reps, who offered zero assistance when I told them I was concerned my electrical panel was going to be repaired improperly. I sent AHS a message through Facebook because they had no email listed on their website, and their social media department started working right away to resolve the issue. The social media team was great! My electrical panel is getting the repairs it needs, and I'm very pleased with how everything worked out. I wish the process wasn't so stressful, but that team was amazing, truly provided great customer service.

    Original Review: March 24, 2019

AHS isn't interested in actually fixing the problem. They did cheap patch jobs on my old AC, which consequently kept breaking down before they finally replaced it. That was years of stress and being without AC in the desert multiple times in the summer multiple years in a row. Now they want to do a patch job on my main electrical panel. Their customer service was so unhelpful and let me know that from a financial standpoint, it just made sense to go the cheap route even if the problem wasn't actually fixed. Now I have the money to take care of this kind of thing myself, and I want it done properly, so I'll be cancelling my policy.

I’ve been dealing with the same issue with my AC for the past two years. Different technicians go out but they just put a band-aid patch on the issue and it doesn’t do anything to fix it. I gotta keep calling American Home Shield back and pay another $100 for another service call. The techs said it was low on Freon, so they added some. Then, they said it was too much, so they took some Freon out. They said many different things, but it never got fixed. Now, it’s broken again and the technician went out and he said it was the coils and that it needed Freon. I paid $400 for Freon plus the $100 service charge. It was around five times that they came out within the two years and they were $100 each. That was 500 plus the 500, so it is $1000 and I am not too happy with that. Hopefully, the issue is fixed.

For my primary residence, it has been good when they came out and fixed the issue until the last one that my washer went out and the techs came out and they wanted to give me something else that I dislike. They said, “You can have cash and then you can go out and buy something else,” so I bought something else at Costco. I bought a pair of washer and dryer, but instead of giving me $950, they gave me $370. I called them back to see what happened and they said, “Oh, I’m sorry. We made a mistake.” They were supposed to send me another $500 since last week and a half, but I still haven’t received it yet.

The contractors for the AC at the condo were really bad. Nobody wanted to fix it. But the ones that came out to my primary residence, sometimes for my washer and sometimes for my AC, have been good. I just wish they could come out and fix it the first time and won’t be talking around to people and spending money like crazy without even getting it fixed. I am dissatisfied with my experience.

Several years ago, we had a problem when we went for months trying to get our cooktop replaced or fixed through American Home Shield. That was when they were using Sears and the repair people sent from there were completely clueless about the GE cooktop and they were ordering wrong parts. After going from September to February, American Home Shield finally told us they couldn't get the parts. Instead, they had a blower motor in the whole country cooktop that would fit the underneath parts because it was a downdraft. So, they sent it out. Gold Star came and installed it.

More recently we had another experience with Gold Star Services for a dishwasher that wasn't washing dishes appropriately and a Whirlpool Cabrio top-loading high-efficiency washer with a glass top that kept exploding off. The normal appliance repair guy who comes to our house is extremely knowledgeable. However, the other two guys who came didn't seem to be as knowledgeable. They admitted that one of them was in training and that the normal guy had gone on vacation for a long weekend. Still, it was no problem and they worked with us. For the washing machine, the lid that was coming off was the third lid already and I was surprised that AHS was okay with replacing it again. It was eventually fixed. For the dishwasher, they were unable to get parts and the replaced it altogether. So, we've recommended AHS to our children as well as our neighbors.

It took less than three days between submitting the claim and getting someone out there and it was great. Their thought process was that it would be too cost-prohibitive to go through the toilets and figure out what was causing the issue, so we ended up replacing the toilet and it was super fast. They were back within a few days with new toilets and the contractor replaced them within a couple of hours, and we were good to go.

I've had American Home Shield for over a year and I've renewed it already. Air Creation Heating & Cooling came out for routine maintenance, though it really didn't do much. I thought it should've been covered under the $75. The tech pointed out a couple of things and said if I needed to make a separate appointment, I'd have to do that. Other than that, he seemed to know what he was talking about. There was another time when a part had to be changed in the clothes dryer, and the only difficulty was that the contractor didn't have the part available. It took a little while to get the part but we made it.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for the sewer injector pump, and they put me on the call for more than 35 minutes. But in less than a day, the contractor came out. They showed up around the time what they were promised to. I showed them the problem and they did everything. They knew the job, what they were doing and they did it good.

The contractor from Rescue Me Locksmith was nice. He came in and told us what locks he could change with the same key. It's very valuable to have American Home Shield. I have peace of mind that in case something happens, I can call them so they can have someone come out and fix it.

We had a service call with American Home Shield for the sump pump in our house. The guy showed up and did a wonderful job. My interactions with him were wonderful, too. We just moved into the house in February and having a warranty has been very valuable. I would highly recommend AHS.

I normally file claims with American Home Shield on the phone. I like the flexibility, although I have a concern about it when I filed a claim for my dishwasher. I was offered for the person to come in, but the dates were not flexible and I couldn't change that according to my schedule. The people suggested that I take off from work or have a neighbor come to my house to be there for them to do the installation or the repair.

The dishwasher wasn’t draining and drying. I had one guy come out but he came out there twice. First, he said it was the motor, then he came back and fixed another part. I didn’t use the dishwasher or followed up on using the dishwasher for about a month, but when I used it again, the same problem was occurring, it was not draining and not drying. When I called back, the company came back and said that the motor was gone again, although it had not been used one time completely. Another company, Tommy D Appliance Repair, came out and they were great. They were very thorough and very informative with me, so I will recommend that company again. The tech identified the same problem and said that it was not fixable at that point. I got a replacement dishwasher and it was comparable to what we had in the past.

The pilot lights on my furnace went out. I’m a new homeowner and I never had to experience this, so I didn’t know how to do it myself. So, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield to get somebody out and the process was simple and straightforward. I went online, let AHS know, paid my fee and they had somebody for me. The furnace that we have is an old unit that we bought from another couple and they've had it for a while. The contractor gave me some advice on what I might need to do in the future should that particular furnace go out. He did the job and he was friendly. American Home Shield has been there for us and so far, I haven’t had any serious problems.

When my water heater wasn't working, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and navigating through their website was easy. Within seconds, I got a text from NW Sundance Services and then I got a call from them. The guy who came was very knowledgeable. I wouldn’t do anything. He showed up and did everything for me. It went really fast. Everything has been great since the repair.

I put in my request online and told American Home Shield that my dryer's drum wouldn't spin. Pender Enterprises called me and a very professional guy came out. He said that he needed to order a couple of parts and that he'd call me on Monday. He did and he came back out on Tuesday. He did a good job and now my dryer is working.

Four different parts of the pool were dripping water and something needed to be replaced. I prefer submitting a claim to American Home Shield online. It’s much easier for me, and it’s fast and simple. AHS has sent Knock Out Pools, the contractor, different times. They have always been on time and they do a good job. We’ve had AHS since 2011 when we bought the house and everything has been great for me.

I took advantage of a preventive maintenance checkup that American Home Shield offered and everything was good. The scheduling took a little bit because of my work schedule, but we were able to work it out. The contractor that came out was good. The tech was very friendly, very receptive as far as any questions that I asked, and he provided a lot of useful information.

As our AC wasn’t picking on when we change the temperature, we filed a request online. American Home Shield rang within 24 hours, and the contractor was at my house within 48. The issue was caused by a fuse and the contractor fixed it the same day. All was very good.

The oven part of my stove wasn’t heating up. I would press to heat it up and wait 45 minutes, and it would only go to 170. So, I would have to press "broil" in order to even get it up to 350. I filed a claim with American Home Shield for that appliance issue. Normally, I do that over the phone because we wanna make sure that whatever the issue is, it’s covered before we pay the $100.

The contractor, Appliance Surgeons, came out came out quickly two days after to do the repair. They didn’t have the part so they had to order it and that’s understandable. But once the part came in, they came right out and fixed it, so it was good service. What was wrong was that the bottom heating element was totally burnt out and only the top one that did the broil was working, so they replaced the bottom heating element. My parents are purchasing the house, so they’ll fix anything that’s wrong with it. That’s the only reason why I cancelled my AHS warranty, but I would still have it. AHS has been great and I loved my experience with them. Every single time that I’ve had a problem, the contractors that AHS sent out have been great.

We did the spring cleaning tune-up and we had some initial maintenance we wanted to do before summer. When the contractor came out, they found some issues that needed to be repaired, so they came back and took care of that for us. All of the people that we dealt with have been very good. In the beginning, our interactions with the AHS reps weren’t very good because some of the people they had working for them on the phone lines were very hard to understand. On the last couple of issues that we’ve had, they’ve had to call from the authorization department and those have been fine.

I would normally call in my claims to American Home Shield. I've never had a problem talking to their person. But when I had issues with my furnace, I did it online as their phone lines were busy and it said to use their online system. That was very easy to do. I got a text message within a few minutes of my claim submission saying who was assigned to my case. I did my claim at 8:00 pm and their contractor called me at 6:30 the next morning.

I got very knowledgeable and friendly technicians. We had no problems with any of them. This was the fifth time our furnace was fixed. This time, the whole job took over three days. Initially, somebody came out and replaced some kind of motor. But it still wasn't working. We noticed that it would take like 45 minutes for the furnace to turn on. Somebody had to come out and look at it again. It took about two and a half hours trying to figure out what was wrong with the furnace. They said there was a bunch of stuff with the furnace. They called American Home Shield and recommended that they replace it. I got a new furnace and the installation yesterday was from 9:30 am to about 12:30.

We're pleased we have American Home Shield. Their service is good and we're gonna continue to subscribe to it. They're usually very responsive which is nice. We have two young children in our house so it's good to have somebody being responsive, saying, "Yes, this is getting worked on. We know it's cold outside. We know your house is cold. We know you have kids. We're gonna send somebody right out." Their customer service is good.
