We've had nothing but good experiences with Home Shield so far and we've had it for four years now. If they lowered my yearly bill, that would be sweet. But nonetheless, we've always enjoyed American Home Shield. Claims submission is a really easy process. It's submitted online and then somebody is normally there the next day. We've also had the same couple of people come out every time and they are always really nice and helpful. They're quick too. They're typically in and out, and the problem is fixed. Recently, it was The Fridge Guy that came out. That claims for the freezer. It was not closing all the way, getting my freezer to ice up. All in all, American Home Shield does a good job and we're happy with them.
Patrick,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I've had Expert Pools out here before through American Home Shield and they’re really good. Our most recent claim was smooth as well. I typically submit claims over the phone and it's very simple for me. Usually, somebody calls the same day, especially with Expert Pools. It takes a few days lead time, but I’ve never had an issue with them. Then the guy that came out has been out here before and he has been excellent every time. Since the repair, everything is working as it’s supposed to. And I would recommend AHS.

Our bathtub was leaking so we called American Home Shield for a repair. The claims representative was good. However, we were not very satisfied with On Time Plumbing & Heating. We had the issue reported and then they supposedly fixed it. And then that problem was still there. My daughter took a shower, and the water was still leaking through the first floor. All the ceiling was wet, leaking to the first floor.
We then called back, and my husband asked for another day off. So, it was not a really good experience. He requested a day off from work, so he didn't get to earn for that day. So, it was not really positive. They were kinda nice and kind, but the work was not done, so we ended losing a lot of days of work. We then called back, and they sent another plumber. It's working well so far. AHS, however, should cover more because like the problem with the damage in the ceiling -- they didn't cover that. The plan just covered to fix the plumbing but not to fix the other damages.
Good morning Olga,
Your concerns are greatly appreciated regarding the plumbing leak that you experienced. I would be glad to speak with you to reach a resolution regarding the delay in service.

I've had a good experience with American Home Shield so far. When I had a claim for an air conditioner, the service and the interactions with the contractor went well. Plus, he showed up on time like he said he would and did a good job. The air conditioner has a Freon leak though, so I think he’s gonna be out again shortly. But that’s not his fault.

Our garage door wasn’t opening and we filed a claim over the phone with American Home Shield. It was a simple process. The first company that came out was Exit Garage Door and they were awful. They diagnosed the problem in less than a minute, told us that the insurance wouldn't cover the repair, and gave us the cost of doing it out of our pockets. I said no to that and asked for a second opinion. Then, Sam’s Garage Doors came in, gave us an entirely different diagnosis, and did everything under contract. They were great. All in all American Home Shield is pretty good though some of their contractors aren’t.

My gas furnace stopped working all together. I submitted a claim with AHS on the phone and spoke to a representative. Budget is their go-to contactor in our area. So it was very fast. It was below zero cold when it went out and I got anxious, but they were very patient with me on the phone. Then when they got here, they were very thorough. Once they fixed the problem, they walked me through some things to look for in the future that might indicate if something would be happening. So there was some education too, which was great. I didn't pay them for that, but the young man took a few minutes to go through some things with me. Overall, American Home Shield was great. And I have been recommending them.

I've been with American Home Shield for almost two years now and my experience with them has been very good. They’ve been very nice when I had to submit a claim and that was an extremely easy process. They have an automated thing that you can put your request in, then they always send you right away the name of the contractor that they’re sending, along with their phone number. Every contractor that I’ve had has been very professional and very nice, and I would not have a complaint with any of their contractors.
Recently, there seemed to be a water leak behind the shower wall. AHS sent out the contractor, A&S Plumbing, to figure out what was going on and do the repair. The plumber cut into the wall and determined that the problem was not the back of the shower. Then, once I sent the receipt, AHS offered me $135 to replace the sheetrock, so I can’t ask for more than that. It’s what I would have to spend and maybe more to get somebody out there to fix that sheetrock. AHS is a very good company and I’ve recommended them to a number of people who have now gotten a warranty with them.

American Home Shield recently sent Dawson Services for a tune-up. They just went and looked at my furnace and went outside and looked at my AC. He was in and out in 45 minutes. The guy who came out was super friendly. He seemed kinda awkward at first because he was more worried about how I was gonna react towards him than anything else, which is good. I would prefer that. The AC crew was great. But on the other hand, I was a little frustrated when it came to my washing and drying machine. The guy came and he did an inspection and then I never heard anything back for the specific period of time. Nobody told me about anything until I complained.
It took a whole month until I called somebody and told me what was happening. All they said to me for the dryer was, "Well, you just gotta clean your vent." And it wasn’t my vent that was the problem. I figured out later with fixing it myself that my vent wasn’t the problem. And for the dryer, they did come in and they had to replace a lot of shit. But they then denied it ever flowing in the first place ever. I was not as happy with that as I am with everything else. Other than that, they did a great job. So, overall, including the AC people, I am happy with AHS.

I usually make a phone call at American Home Shield to make a claim, but last time I went to their website and they had an online helper who popped up. He walked me through how to do it and that was really easy, so that was pretty nice. The people they send out seem pretty responsible. I only had one issue, and that was when I had an issue with my AC. The techs fell off the planet for two months, but I called American Home Shield back and they hunted them down and got it taken care of. I hadn't been with AHS very long when my AC went out, but they fixed one AC and completely replaced the other even though I had only been with them a month or two. I thought they might give me a little pushback, but they didn't.
We also had a little issue with our water tank heater wherein the wrong one got ordered, but the one that the techs ended up getting me was bigger than the one I originally had. So, in the end it was pretty good. Recently I had Active come for the garage door, and it turned out to be the springs on the door so that wasn't covered under warranty. But the people that came out to do it gave us a discount since they went through the warranty, so the cost that they gave us pretty much would have been the same with the deductible that I had to pay. So far, I have definitely gotten my money's worth at American Home Shield.

We reported to American Home Shield that our icemakers were not working. Within 24 hours, we were notified that they had scheduled an appointment with Able Heating and Air. Within the next 24 hours, we had a call from them and they got to us two and a half days after that. The technicians came on a Saturday which was fine with us. They checked the equipment and found that both were not functioning properly. They said they would then file that information with American Home Shield. About three days later, they came back and reported to us that AHS authorized the replacement of the two icemakers and they were gonna put an order. By the next Saturday afternoon, a gentleman came out on time and installed the two icemakers. He was in and out in less than 40 minutes. Everything went very smoothly and there was no distraction in our lifestyle. Everything is functioning properly.
We called American Home Shield once previously for an older dishwasher we had in the house. They took care of that properly. We also had a washer dryer issue which had to do with some knobs. It simply had to be replaced to function properly. That was taken care of as well. Most of the time we called American Home Shield, they had someone out within a reasonable period of time and any diagnosis or potential claims was processed and resolved quickly.
About eight months ago, we had a hot water unit replaced. I was a little bit surprised that we weren't fully covered but for the most part, the cost of the installation with the limited participation of AHS still made the overall replacement less expensive than it would have been if we had gone on the open market. For the most part, American Home Shield has been a solid insurance value for us. We're very happy with them and we'll continue to use them.

It was quickly scheduled and the contractor who came out was professional, clean and courteous. They did what I couldn’t do after a couple of days trying. So, it worked out nicely. They always tell you extra things to do to prevent it from happening again and so, they were helpful beyond just the task. I’ve had other companies and American Home Shield is far more reputable than some of the other ones where I felt like I always had to fight to get things done. It was quick, easy and convenient to get to them. I have no worries and no complaints.

The guy from Plumb Genius LLC then came out when he was supposed to and he was really clean and nice. He replaced a huge pipe and ever since the sink hasn't leaked. It has been perfect. I bought American Home Shield's program in 2016 after my husband passed away, and because it was recommended to me, that being a widow, for my appliances and things, that American Home Shield was a good program. When my air condition unit in my sunroom wasn’t working, the first guy that came out said that there was no way for him to check the Freon level or something in the unit. He looked at it about five minutes and said, “I don’t do those,” and walked away.
On the other hand, Brauer's Mechanical did a good job. They were very professional. They didn’t dirty up my carpet. They came in, assessed the situation and told me they would get back to me. The customer service section reached out to me to let me know what was going on, that the unit could not be fixed and that they had ordered one. And when it came in, they were very punctual about calling me in saying that they will be out Tuesday to install the new one. The owner came out with a guy to replace it and it took them 30 minutes. They were great. They walked me through how to use it and the paperwork, and if anything ever happened, how to follow up and let them know if I have any issues. When you go through a bad experience and you get somebody that cares about what they’re doing, it makes a big difference. I would recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

Because of that, American Home Shield is now giving me refund on the service fee. I appreciate their help.

I filed a claim with AHS online and the original person that they asked didn’t show up. So I called AHS and they were very responsive. I was impressed with their service because they understood that my time is valuable. The first issue was in the bathroom. This is a old house and the knobs on the bathtub for the water had just stripped. My roommate used pliers used to turn it on and off. And then in the kitchen there was a leak. The contractor came and I was impressed with his mannerisms. His service seemed to be okay. However, when he left, nothing worked. The knobs just worked for a little bit. I don’t use it, but my roommate said that when he turns it, you can tell it’s not gonna last at all. It needs to be re-thread. The leak is still there in the kitchen as well. But the contractor was a great guy. He called back last week and said that he got a part for the thing in the kitchen.

I called on American Home Shield because I didn’t have any hot water and filing the claim online was really easy for me. They got me an email for what I pretty much sent them and as soon as the business opened at 8:00, they called me. That was really quick. In terms of the contractor that was assigned, everything was good there. The receptionist was really nice too. But I never actually got to talk with the plumber who actually came out. He fixed the issue and the water heater works now. The only thing I didn’t like was that I really didn’t know how he did it. So I would like to know how. But it was nothing that American Home Shield did. They did a good job and everything was good. I would even recommend them to anybody.

We were in the middle of selling a home when we filed claims with American Home Shield over the phone. I spoke with representatives both times and everything was phenomenal from the point that I called. I was impressed with the amount of respect that we got and the promptness of scheduling appointments. We were within seven days of closing on the home and AHS was able to get everything scheduled and done before the closing time. Most of the time, when I call insurance companies, things would be two or three weeks out. But with American Home Shield, everything seemed to be next-day service so it was great. The technicians also explained everything to me from beginning to the end – exactly what was gonna be entailed on my part for my responsibilities and what led up to the cause of everything. That way, I could reach the new homeowners to make sure that we prevent any future occurrences.
I had a problem with the furnace from the inspection from the sale of the home. After that, I also had a problem with the actual air conditioning unit and lack of Freon. So the contractor had to come back out and put Freon in it. Every time that I had something that popped up, the contractors called and were very attentive to it. They would basically call if there was an earlier time that became available. When I had to go back through the actual heating company to submit an official work order, they reached out and told me that the work order had been approved before they reached out to the air conditioning company. Everything was sent to me via text message and emails. That was the automated system. But when I submitted the ticket, it was actually through the technician who took it over the phone.

I have had American Home Shield since February. When I had to have an AC preseason check-up, I put in a request to them. I did it online as it is much quicker than waiting on the phone to get someone to talk to. Steinmetz HVAC came out and the technician explained to me everything he did. I had a good experience with them. They were able to finish it in half an hour. Other than the AC check-up, I also made a claim to AHS for the dishwasher. At first, the repair didn’t go well because the technician who came to check the dishwasher didn’t look very well. They were saying that they had to order some part. Then, it took three weeks for another technician to come and he found that there was nothing wrong with the dishwasher. The way that the hose should be was not correct so, they corrected it and it was working fine after.

They also didn’t have the part in stock and they had to order the part, which came in two days later but they couldn’t come back out until the following Wednesday to put it in. They said they couldn’t get here any faster. The customer service with AHS was great. Everything was fine from that end but I was without an oven for two weeks. You don’t realize how much you use your oven until you don’t have it.
We had two different technicians from National Platinum Service. One came out and diagnosed the problem and he was nice and professional. He didn’t get here until almost 8:00 at night because they were that busy and they work that late. Then, the technician who came the next week was friendly and courteous but didn’t get here until a little bit later to put it in. They said they would get here between 5:00 and 7:00 but it was in between 8:30 and 9:00 when they came. They called ahead of time and at least they came, which was a plus. Other than the installation process with the contractor, everything was great with AHS.

But once they did, we tried to schedule it as quick as possible. I think they were a little busier.
My wife got a call on the first contractor that came out, and she gave him a real good rating. They were fast. I felt they did a real good job. She said they were nice and had worked through some of the stuff. There were definitely a few issues, but they were trying to follow up with it. We had some things that we're kinda wondering about. The garbage disposal wasn't working and I had to file a claim with a chat person. It would have been easier if American Home Shield has a tool to do it online. I filed the claim on a Friday and Value Rooter came out on Monday. I spoke to them after they finished the repair and they seem good.

For a lot of issues, people sometimes need to have someone sooner than later and I appreciate American Home Shield for keeping that in mind. Everything is pretty much quick once you’ve called to request your claim. Everything is in a timely fashion and the technicians they've sent out have been very professional. I’ve never had any issues with their quality of work. They've been very informative and able to answer any questions that I had at that time. They sent BestWay Mechanical for a plumbing issue that I had. Our disposal was leaking through underneath the sink and needed to be replaced. So I called American Home Shield and they put me in touch with a local plumbing company. Everything was professional. The technician came out and assessed the issue. He told me what needed to be done and he replaced the disposal. It only took him about 10 minutes and everything pretty much went smoothly. It went very well.

The washing machine was not working properly and the guy from Sears, sent by AHS, determined that it was the drive motor. However, he did not have the part so he ordered it. Two weeks later he came back, put it on and it repaired the problem with what was going on. He was very professional and clean. But getting someone to take a look at my issues is never fast as I'd want it. I understand it perfectly though. The repairman told me that in my area that he covers, there’s only three of them. Knowing that, I was happy with the response time. And while I've been happy with the service I've gotten from AHS, I was disappointed when I went to renew and it was almost $150 after I purchased them. I then realized that it always goes up after your first year. But a few hundred dollars seems quite a bit to go up after the initial adjustments.

We’ve been very happy with American Home Shield. We lived in North Carolina for 10 years and we had them down there and we also have them now that we’re here in Tennessee. We recently had two claims with them, one for our refrigerator and another for the dryer. We’ve been very pleased with the contractor. They were able to take care of the dryer because they had the part in the truck. On the other hand, they had to replace all of the electric panels in the refrigerator and they had to come out four times because they had to order the part each time. It took a couple of weeks to solve the issue and everything is great, since.
Sandra,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

My parents have been using American Home Shield for over three years and unfortunately their service has gotten worse over this time. Their washing machine stopped working on April third and they called AHS on the 4th. Their response time to send a technician out was prompt as someone came out the next day the 5th. The technician said that a part needed to be ordered (water level sensor) and would take about 3 days to get the part. After three days American Home Shield had not called to notify them or to give them an update. When my parents called on April 10th to find out the status of the part the representative said the part was sent out to Astro Appliance the company that would be performing the service. By April 11th no part or no call my parents had to reach out to Astro Appliance who told my parents they would not be able to fix their washer until April 15th.
This is now over two weeks from when the first call was put into American Home Shield and still their washer that was supposed to be a simple fix is still not working. My parents are elderly into their late 70s and are having to go to a Washateria to get their laundry done. On Friday April 12th my parents called American Home Shield again and requested to speak with a supervisor named Steve who was unavailable (out to lunch) but would call my parents back within a couple of hours. They never received a phone call from the supervisor. My parents requested the phone number to their home office but the AHS rep said a phone number did not exist for the home office only an address. Very poor customer service by American Home Shield and the companies that they are contracting with to get a simple job done.
Now the company that is contracted Astro Appliance is saying it won't be until Wednesday the 17th that their washer will supposedly be fixed. My parents are paying $60 monthly for their service and then have to pay an additional $80 trip charge for a technician to come out. That is over $720 a year for poor to no service. My parents requested to use another company but American Home Shield stated they would have to pay an additional $80 trip charge to have a new company come out. As soon as the work is done my parents will be canceling with American Home Shield and I strongly advise everyone to save their money and not use this company as their service has diminished over time. Very disappointed in American Home Shield and will not recommend them to anyone.Kevin **.

I have 8 contracts with AHS and I am OK with the service they provide when dealing with small or medium sized repair issues. Howevever DO NOT fall for their marketing statements that strongly imply that they will replace anything. The will do everything they can to turn down any need for such replacements. I have had two situations where the contractor has told me that my A/C is beyond a repair that would make the unit useable for a reasonable time and would soon need to be repaired again. On being told this AHS informed me that replacing the A/C would be my decision and they would not contribute a dime to the cost of the replacement. That is my experience and remember I HAVE 8 PROPERTIES ON CONTRACT WITH THEM.

I had microwave not heating issue, logged service request online, didn't get any any call from them for 3 days. Called AHS and also the 3rd party handyman service (auto assigned from the website), 3rd party service were too busy to schedule an appointment for another 1 week. AHS then assigned the call to another vendor. They came after few days, ordered a part, waited for another 3 weeks, technician came to replace the parts, it failed because it was wrong part ordered, new part ordered again. Now waiting for getting another part. Hope this time it will work.
It's been more than a month service is yet not completed, in every above steps I had to call AHS to expedite... I had to buy another microwave as I could NOT wait this long suffering without a MW. I asked AHS customer service - "Is this your standard customer service quality? You don't care about how long it takes to fix the appliance and you don't have any SLA. Looks like it may take 6 months but you don't care." Answer was, "YES. We don't have any SLA around how long it will take to fix." Really? Why do we then pay every month and in addition service fee for every call??

I signed up for American Home Shield in January 2019. On April 1 I called 'cause my refrigerator was not cooling. They immediately send MS Appliance. The tech said it was my compressor and that the compressor was cover under LG warranty. He was going to notify American Home Shield so they could make arrangements with LG to get my refrigerator repaired. On April 3rd Swift Appliance Repair comes to check my refrigerator and tells me he will order the compressor and the ice maker which needed to be replaced and I should hear from them as soon the parts are received.
On April 8 I get a call from Ash Appliance Repair to schedule an appointment to fix my refrigerator. I tell them I was expecting Swift Appliance who had ordered the part to come back and fix my refrigerator. I call Swift Appliance and tell me that told AHS they need to contact LG and make arrangements with them to repair the refrigerator since the compressor was still under warranty. I call AHS and ask why do they continue to send these Repairmen and why have they not contacted LG as they were told by the two Appliance Repair companies that came to check my refrigerator. They said they would call LG and call me back the next day. Never got a callback.
I call on 4-10 in the evening and tried to explain my situation and all the operator would say, "Let me schedule an appointment for you." I told her I did not want another repair person to come until LG was contacted. She than placed me on hold for over 30 minutes then came back on the line and said would I like to schedule an appointment? I finally got upset and asked to speak to a supervisor.
When she finally came on the she was very rude and said AHS does not cover Appliances that are under warranty and if I read the contract I would know. I told they should have told me that after the first Repairman informed them that the compressor was under warranty. She responded and what would like me to do? She also said that she would waive my service call of $100.00. I told, "Waive it. You did nothing for me. I should not have to pay." By this time I was very upset and told her cancel my plan and I wanted a full refund since they did not follow through what was promised. She said fine she would cancel it.
The following day I get an email from the retention dept canceling my service and charging me a cancellation 53.00 cancellation fee plus $91.00 for the two months I did not even use their service. I called to see if I could speak to the retention dept to reinstate my policy so I would not have to pay a cancellation fee which I thought was so unfair. The operator tells me they have no retention department and I had to deal with her. If I wanted to reinstate my policy she would transfer me to sales to start a whole new contract and another 30 day waiting period. Oh my gosh. I’ve never been on hold for so long and such rude operators. Not friendly at all. I can bet you that I will not get a response from AHS on this comment 'cause if you notice all responses are on the positive reviews. I plan to take this further and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. People need to be aware of this terrible service and scam they are conducting.

For claims submission, I like calling someone and in the two times that I called American Home Shield, I waited on the line. But it was for a while only. It's like calling anyone. You go into a queue. American Home Shield sent Bencraft Mechanical Services for the air conditioner, which seemed to be not working. The fan wasn't automatically kicking in and once the warmer weather started, the air conditioner wasn’t cooling the house down unless you physically went and turned the fan on. I didn’t know this though. Usually, it just goes on when it needs to go on. The man came and looked at everything. He did whatever it was that needed to be done and the air conditioner is working fine now. I had one other situation with a plumbing issue in January and that experience was positive as well. The people came and it was good.
It was in January that I re-upped the warranty for this year. I also had the Home Shield last year but I really didn’t understand what it was. I had been given this paper and I had no issue what it was. I even had the air conditioner serviced myself in September and I paid $167 but I wasn’t thrilled with the company. Then when American Home Shield came out for signing up again, that was when I really found out what type of service I had the previous year because that was when I talked with them.
It sounded like a good service, especially with me being new to the area and not knowing who to call. The warranty is very good to me because I know the person coming in is a reputable person. You can open up the computer and look on Yelp but you don’t really know who you're calling. With American Home Shield, they call the people and the two experiences I've had, with the plumbing and with the air conditioner, were very good. The contractors were here very quickly too. The warranty is a good value.

Sometimes, submitting claims with American Home Shield could be aggravating because they take you through all these things. I hate the button stuff because there's a specific problem, and I know they're all specific, but I just want a live agent. There are a lot of buttons. After all of them, sometimes I just hang up and then pay my own person. We're paying every month so I figured, with all that money and we barely use it, which is great, I should be able to speak with an agent quickly.

He explained to us that before we bought the house, the wrong pipe was put in our showers. But he was able to make the water go down. He explained to us how the piping was incorrect in the showers. So, that would have to be done later on if it's still causing more problems.
The main one with the kitchen, he was able to make the water go down. And he had to re-pipe the entire bottom part of the sink, which was awesome because it was also not piped correctly. Our washing machine wasn’t cycling through certain types of setting. And when we moved it to look at it, the tiles had oil underneath it. I thought it was the transmission or motor going out. So, it would have been very costly to replace it. I filed a claim and American Home Shield moved quickly, but the GE company was the one that took a little over a week. They even called to acknowledge it. I live in the country, and we have a little water bridge you have to go over, and there was a little bit of water running across it. You could walk through it, but the company refused to cross the water. So, we had to go out there with our pickup truck, pick up the washing machine, bring it to the house, and then it sat in the garage. And I called American Home Shield, and then they had a local company within a matter of two days out here to install it for us.
The contractors that came out to install were excellent. Living out here in the country, there is a local company, Marzuco Electric, that does appliances and electrical things, and I always call American Home Shield instead of doing an online ticket so I make sure I have that. Sometimes if you don’t do that, they might send somebody 60 miles away. I live so far away from the city, and I have somebody 15 miles away that I can really trust. And for the washing machine not installed by GE, American Home Shield put a ticket and Marzuco came out right away because they are the ones that came out to do the estimate on the damage of it. I have no complaints with American Home Shield.

It was not too hard of a fix and they had the part on the truck. They put the part in and immediately my son called me and said that the ac had started cooling the house off. My son didn’t feel like he would just come in real quick and then run. He took time to survey the problem and then got it fixed. I also had another claim with Home Shield for the freezer. It was leaking water into the refrigerator. And as soon the tech showed up, he knew exactly what the problem was, and he fixed it fast. And he was offering cleaning up and putting everything back, and I was like, “That was above and beyond for me.” He didn’t have to do that. He was pleasant. The whole online process was great when I filed a claim for my dishwasher, other than the first company that American Home Shield sent out. Somehow, communication between them and the first company got garbled, so it took longer than it should have. American Home Shield got it in their head that the issue was a power surge, but it had nothing to do with that because I've got a backup system. But the second company got it all straightened out real quick. They were awesome.
The tech came in and he took 15 minutes. He was great. He said that the guys who looked at the dishwasher before were completely wrong. The tech found the wire that goes through it and told me that it had nothing to do with any kind of overcharge. It just went bad. I found out that the control panel was supposed to beep. I didn't even know it did beep, so that component had been dead for a while. It took about four days to get approval and the part. Then it took the tech about an hour to do the re-install, and the dishwasher has been perfect since.

They selected a company that came out 3 times over the span of almost 8 weeks to repair the unit. Please keep in mind it’s summer in Atlanta, GA and this is my upstairs unit where all my bedrooms are located. The unit was finally fixed in late July and ran for the month of August and first of September. Of course, I had to pay for new Freon for the unit resulting in a cost over their service fee of almost $600.
When I went to start the unit this week as the weather changes, it was only blowing hot air. All the Freon is gone and once again, my upstairs unit isn’t working. I reached out to American Home Shield to say something must not have been fixed properly and their reply was my complaint was more than 60 days from the repair. I would have to start over. When I explained the air conditioning hadn’t been running for 60 days because the weather changed, the manager told me he would look into my issue with the company and call me back in 24 hours.
When I didn’t hear from him, I called the service department back and none of the prior day’s call was noted and he obviously just blew me off. The new manager on the line told me that was nothing she could do but resubmit a new service request with the required fee. I checked with another company that told me the issue was probably a slow leak in one of the coils, something that was probably missed. I asked if the same company that completed the work the first time could come back, but I was told no.
So now I’m stuck with a hot house, a unit with no Freon even though the unit was fully charged less than 7 months ago but wasn’t running the AC, to start over. This has frustrated me to a point beyond belief and no one at this company seems to care. I would look for another option as AHS has increased their monthly rates, only cares about fees and not the customer, and they blow off complaints.
Yngrid,

When I had my spring check-up on my air conditioner, the contractor told me that some switch was showing out it was weak. It may not be able to kick off the AC motor when it gets hot over the summer. He was going to replace it but I said I would call American Home Shield and let them know. As soon as I spoke with the agent, the contractor called me that same day and had someone out to repair it. It was J J Fire & Ice and they're very good.
They got over here quickly and they were very professional. The technician completed the job so quickly too. It was up in the attic and when he came down, I thought that there was something wrong or that he didn't have the part. But no, he said that it was done. It wasn't a major repair or any big deal, and everything worked out great. It was my first experience with American Home Shield and it was a good one.
By doing a fair amount of research online initially, American Home Shield sounded like the best one although they are more money. A lot of people would pay $40 or $50 and I pay $100. But I've heard that for people who pay $40 or $50, the guy tells them that it is not covered. So it's not worth it for me then. Plus with American Home Shield, I could choose which items I wanted to place on the warranty. I just had new hot water tank put in and I thought I wouldn't need that insured. So I liked the flexibility of choosing what I wanted to insure.

When we would turn the handle up in the master shower, the water wouldn’t stop running. But it wasn’t the supply line. Water wasn’t pouring on the floor but it was something with the mechanism within the shower. And it kept running, so we turned the water off so it would not keep running. I made a claim with American Home Shield that Thursday night at 10:00, and we had a $75 fee. And so, I put the credit card in and put online what was going on. And then, the next morning, first thing, a guy called to schedule the service. They came out that afternoon to fix it. They thought they had it fixed and it had the water stopped. They had to replace a new cartridge. But then, when we went to take a shower Saturday morning, the handle where it was hot kept flopping down and going into scalding hot.
On Monday afternoon, I tried to call the plumber but didn't get him back. But it was late in the day. So, Tuesday morning, I called American Home Shield back because a survey had come over. And I had already sent the survey and everything was good because I thought it was all fixed. And so, when I called them back, they put it in as a no-claim. I didn't have to pay more money. They called the plumber and he called within two minutes after I talked to them and we scheduled. And I couldn't reschedule until that Thursday. They came back Thursday and now, it’s all fixed. I’m satisfied with the contractor and with American Home Shield. They took care of me right away.

We were gonna replace the heating system because it is old, we'll pay for that and I was hoping that the Home Shield could help us with the ductwork. The contractor went to my house, he went under there and put in his report that I had sewage and hazardous waste under there. I don't have sewage under there, it's just water and dirt. Nobody took care of anything. They sent me a letter saying that they declined it because of the hazardous waste and stuff under my house. They couldn't see where it was coming from because of the water.
I told them to just cancel that policy and the lady talked me into waiting, till it got dried out, so they can come out and look again. And I said, "So, I gotta pay another $100?" She said, "No, they'll just come out and see what's going on." The thing that gets me on here is Section 1, Item 2 of the contract states, "AHS is not responsible or liable for performing service, or paying remedy, whatever cost involving hazardous or toxic materials." This sentence just made me mad. I wouldn't recommend them at all. If they do right by it I won't be upset with them. But they need to get rid of that hazardous waste crap.
Mary,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with AHS. I sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue regarding the DuctWork request. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

We had a drain in our bathtub that was completely broken off. On top of that, we had leaking faucets as well as a leak underneath the sink. We submitted claims online to American Home Shield and navigating their website was easy. They said that a contractor would call within 24 hours and then one called an hour later. The tech they sent was amazing. He explained everything and listened to my concerns when the repair became more than what we thought it was gonna be. He replaced some parts of the sink but then he couldn't find the leak underneath it. Still, he tightened everything up and made sure there was nothing leaking.
For the bathtub repair, he had to cut a hole in the ceiling to replace the drain. It was old and completely gone. We could have had a flood in our house. He made sure that my house was left in a way that didn't leave us with huge holes in our ceiling. Since the repair, things have been working well. Overall, AHS and their contractor United Air Temp were great to work with. I recommend them for my area.

We've been with American Home Shield for many years, at least 10, and it has always done a good job for us. The repairmen have always been very kind and done their jobs well. Most recently, my husband submitted a claim for the refrigerator online and The Two Bald Guys called me after that. Our refrigerator was going bad. It was gradually getting warmer so it wasn’t keeping things frozen and things were beginning to go bad in the refrigerator. I really should have called a week or so earlier but I didn’t realize it was gonna get bad as fast as it did.
Two different repairmen came out and verified that yes, we were going to have to get a new one. Then I was able to call American Home Shield and get the amount of money that they would give us to replace our refrigerator because we couldn't wait for one. We had to get one right away or we weren’t going to have anything to keep our food cold. They were able to do that for me and we got one that night. The invoice was faxed and we got the check in the mail today to cover the refrigerator so everything worked out well.

They came out, then that repair person had to order parts. So, I would have to call and they would say, "Well, we have the first part, but we don’t have the second one." I had to stay on top of it to find out when it came in before they came out to fix it. But there was nothing either one of us could’ve done because we had to wait on the parts to come in. Any other time I've had to use them has been seamless. I have recommended them to other people. It's best to have somebody that you can trust they're sending someone out to your house.

On the other hand, transacting with AHS online has been very convenient and their website was easy to use, especially if I just wanted any trades person or company to follow up with me. Generally speaking, the technicians that have been sent out by AHS have been very nice and they've always done an excellent job. When they've come out, they've done the work and even additional work that I've paid for separately. Then they've always cleaned up when they were finished.
Recently, we had an electric outlet in our bathroom that was non-functioning. We filed a claim for repair of the outlet with AHS and the service contractor that they sent out was Holizki Electric. In addition to that, their system was very inconsistent. Also, one person tells me one thing, and another person tells me something else. I get one thing in writing and people tell me on the phone differently. It also took me too many days for every call to get somebody out here.
While our maintenance for AC was fine, my most recent experience with them was awful. They did not honor what they wrote in their contract, that garage door springs were covered. Even though I had to buy a door and they had to buy springs. They would also not give me a separation between the cost of the door and the cost of the spring. You have to call and wait 30 minutes to get somebody on the phone, and then they still want to charge me 125. I had to call back at least three times before they finally took the $125 off. The techs were here just last week and replaced the handle on it, and it worked right when they left then stopped working immediately after that. They've replaced the door twice and now the buttons won't press. The turntable doesn't work because it all has to do with the door not latching right. They said it would take three to five days before I even get a response from American Home Shield.

It takes a long time to get update from AHS. My water heater was leaking two weeks ago. Submit a request and get a plumber come to diagnose. Then there is no response from AHS. It has been more than 10 days to wait. Every time to call the customer service, they just politely tell you to wait and they need a department to approve the replacement of water heater, and they have no idea when it can be approved. How can it take such a long time to make a decision after the diagnosis completed? Without the water heater, we have to take the shower at GYM, how can we wait for a long time? I am forced to give up the warranty and just buy the water heater with installation at Home Depot... which is guaranteed to be completed in two days.

MY A/C went out on a Saturday in March and it took three (3) days for AHS to send someone out to fix it. A part was changed. In April 6, 2019 my A/C went out again. The tech came out on Tuesday and said another part had to be changed (the compressor). I explain that the compressor was recently changed and he stated that no this is the original. Mind you that this unit was 18 years old. The tech stated that he could not report to American Home Shield that the unit needed to be replaced because all they are going to do is send someone else to verify and the policy is to change the part and keep moving.
I called AMS and explain that the unit is in very poor condition and I was told that unless the tech stated that it needed to be change nothing was going to be done. Please keep in mind that I am also a disabled American veteran and dealing with this has not been easy. I explain to the AHS manager who identified himself as "Mark" what was going on and that I needed the A/C fixed, I have been a customer for over nine years and this was no way to treat a customer. Updated on 04/12/2019: Response - I have reviewed my contract again and you are right. Note that your CS's never said that it wasn't covered in the warranty - not one time. They said they couldn't get authorization for that. My ticket was opened on 21 Mar and it is now 12 April and I still don't have a working refrigerator. 22 days and counting. I am not impressed and if it were you, you wouldn't be impressed either.
Original Review: Well it is a good thing that I was planning on buying a second refrigerator or I would have been entirely without one for almost a month... and still don't have the repair completed. Technician will be here in 4 days. I requested service and of course paid for it online. I was given one possible appointment online that I couldn't use, so I declined that appointment and was told I would hear back within 24 hours for an appointment. A few days later, not having gotten a call back, I called the business that was to do the work. They didn't seem to know anything about it, but made an appointment.
The technician said that parts would take 7-10 days to come in. After two weeks, and now needing a second refrigerator I called AHS. They kept telling me the parts had been received by the technician, but then they would also say they were shipped. I finally asked "Are you confirming that the parts been received by the technician, or just that they have been shipped. The CS person actually then said "Shipped, Received, same thing". We then argued about the difference for several minutes whereas they never confirmed parts had been received. I then asked how to use my insurance for a rental refrigerator since that is covered by my warranty. They refused.
Oh note that neither of us had been able to make contact with the technician (I tried two days in a row). I asked to speak to a manager and they said they had already spoken with a manager and they would tell me the same thing. I said, "Good, let me speak to the manager that you spoke with." They wouldn't budge for several minutes, but then finally put me on hold for 5 minutes. After the wait, a person that sounded similar to the original person identified themselves as the manager and they started asking questions like they had no clue about why I was calling. When I said, "Didn't the CS person just talk to you about this," they said, "Oh" and then started talking like they knew all about it.
Funny thing is the voice changed right back to the first person that I talked to, confirming that I was talking to the same person. They promised that I would hear back in <24 hours, but they wouldn't give me a rental. Around 48 hours later I called back, not having heard anything. This time I got a guy who started the "parts have been ordered routine", so I said, "No problem, I need a rental". He said, "We can't do that, since parts should be arriving or have arrived..." I said, "Call the technician," since no one can get ahold of him. I guess he was successful, since next thing I know, the technician is on the line, but the AHS CS wasn't. In other words he linked us together and hung up.
The good news is the parts have arrived as of yesterday. The bad news is that I have to wait another 4 days, their communication is lacking, they won't honor their warranty related to rental, and I have no idea if the parts are going to actually work or not. I had AHS years ago and was happy with them. Not anymore. They seemed to have farmed the CS out to some group that doesn't care, doesn't respond and outright lies.

AHS use the high cost of replacing appliance and hvac systems to scare homeowners into purchasing a policy. Then they will pay for minimal repairs until they can find a way to void your warranty so they don't have to replace the system when it ultimately fails. I had two different companies sent out by AHS initially to fix my HVAC when it stopped working. They said it needed freon (which AHS doesn't cover) and a service valve replacement which was done. A couple of months later the HVAC stopped working again and they sent the last company out again and again they said the freon was low and there was a leak but did not fix the leak. They just suggested more freon (not cheap and getting pricier every day.
They sent another company out for a second opinion and that company said there was a cap missing from the system that caused the system to leak so AHS said that voided the warranty and they refused to pay for the repair. When I pushed back that the only companies that had access and would have rempved the cap were AHS contracted companies they said they would escalate it to contractor relations for "research" and proceeded to give me the run around for a couple of weeks. Their customer service is terrible, their supervisors sound identical to their CSRs and say "I understand" a lot like they're robots. I cancelled the policy and am pursuing relief in small claims court.

Costs of construction, carpentry, or other modifications necessary to remove, relocate, or install a Covered Item or part thereof;
Now remember, this is replacing a water heater. I ask them what specifically is necessary. They state that a door has to be removed for access. I ask them what door, they don't know. They then say that "pipes" need to be modified because they are different sizes. I ask them what water heater they are buying, they don't know. So I ask, how do you know if pipes need to be cut or modified, if you don't even have the water heater and you haven't even attempted to install it.
At that point AHS states that they entirely rely on the contractor and that they do not even attempt to review the quote given to the customer. That they don't even care, because that is between the customer and the contractor. I ask what can I do, I have spoken to other plumbers who have given significantly lower quotes. They state that they can offer a buyout. I tell them that I have previously been offered a buyout, but that it was extremely low. The supervisor checks her system and states no buyout has been offered.
This becomes even more confusing. AHS called me and offered a buyout, which did not even cover the cost to replace the water heater, let alone the labor. Now AHS is denying that it ever happened. I have spent the last 12 hours trying to get a covered issue fixed. Installing a water heater is part of a water heater warranty, but AHS is trying to avoid paying for the labor.
The contract is governed by American Arbitration Association. It seems likes its $200 to file a claim. At this point its almost worth the money to file the arbitration. The worst part is, I have suggested AHS to my clients when they purchase real estate. After this experience I am going to make sure that my attorney review letter's specifically state that the home warranty must not be AHS. Terrible experience, and I am no closer to having a water heater.

I had a leak under my sink, so I phoned in a plumbing issue with American Home Shield. The contractor had to leave to get the part, but they came back the same day. They were very good and they fixed it. The only thing was when they called the contractor, the contractor didn't get right back with me. And so, I waited a couple of days for them to get a text message. Other than that, they were great. I'd recommend AHS.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield was fairly easy except when you have appliances or services that fall in different categories. I had a toilet issue and a washer issue, and they were considered separate. So I had to pay two different deductibles and I had two different technicians come out. But being able to combine claims is one of the reasons why I purchased the warranty. The salesperson that I talked to about it had said that that’s what she does. She waits until three to four things break then she calls so she only pays one deductible. But I do see in the packet where there are two different groups.
This was my first time filing a claim and I did it over the phone. When I called the second time, it said that I already had a claim so I had to try to get an operator. So it wasn’t great when I had to call twice and submit. But my only complaint is that since my things broke on a Saturday, I didn’t get any response back until Monday. I didn’t realize that they don’t do contracts on weekend.
The problem with the washer was that it had filled with water but it wouldn't start. American Home Shield sent Book’s Appliance Repair. But when I initially called, American Home Shield gave me a different vendor that wasn't gonna be able to come to my house until four days later. I thought that was my only option so I agreed to it. But then I called and complained about it. I didn’t realize that I could decline that. Home Shield found me a different contractor that had better availability. I didn’t realize that Home Shield has preferred vendors that they recommend right away. But I know that now so if I get one that says they can't come for a week, I can tell Home Shield to give me somebody else.
Both of the technicians who came out were great. They were dressed professionally and they were polite. Both issues were resolved within 20 minutes of them arriving so obviously, they were knowledgeable. The guy that did the plumbing also cleaned up after himself really well. The one from Book’s was okay and I wish they would have wiped their spill a bit better. But they cleaned up all their garbage from when they repaired the part.

When we bought our current house, the Realtor paid for a different warranty company for a year. We liked American Home Shield when we had it with our old house and chose them. When we had water coming up out of our shower and our laundry room floor drain, my wife called into AHS. The guy who came out was really nice. He came out the morning we found out about the issue so we didn’t have to worry about much. We just didn’t use the water for a couple of hours. He ran the tool down in the drain and said there was something blocking it, but wasn’t sure what. He got the repair done within 15 minutes though.

American Home Shield is the third warranty company that I’ve had throughout my lifespan and their claims process has been the easiest and the smoothest so far. I’ve had a couple of different claims with AHS. My interactions with them have been pretty much online and I’ve submitted my requests without issue. I’ve gotten automated feedback based on my request, what’s going on, and the process. Recently, the ice maker in my freezer wasn’t working and I submitted a claim with them. The contractor, Coastal Appliance Repair, responded and got out there quickly. There were two service techs and both of them were fine and respectful. They identified the problem and they did what they needed to do. They had the part and came back in a timely manner. Every time they came, they were on time and communicated the process. Right now, I’m pleased with my decision to switch to AHS.

It was really late at night, and I went into the bathroom and heard water running. I pulled the shower curtain back and saw water was shooting out of the handle instead of coming out of the faucet where it was supposed to be. I jiggled it and got it to stop. I called American Home Shield and they were great. Their reps were very easy to get ahold of and prompt in the actions. They signed up the plumber.
When the Rapps Heating & AC tech came the next day, we could not duplicate the problem so the call was unwarranted. He said, "Unless you can duplicate it, then there's nothing I can fix." Come to find out, there was a little washer in there that if I jiggle the faucet some more, it will probably recreate the problem. Or the next time I use it, it will probably happen again, but I haven't used that bathroom so I haven't recreated the problem and the tech wasn't able to do it either. It wasn't his fault we couldn't make it happen again. He was nice and professional. If it happens again, he's fine to come back out. I've already recommended American Home Shield.

And a guy from Sears came and then he went away and said that he’d be back in a little while. I was thinking it was gonna take a long time but it didn't. He came right over, looked at it and told me exactly what was wrong. He said that there was a crack somewhere to where it would have actually been really dangerous for us to use it. So, he went ahead and shut it off. He shut off the gas and he was very helpful. He explained from top to bottom what he was gonna do, what he did and everything. He was awesome when he was here.
He looked at my stove really quick because one of the burners was not quite working on the back. He ended up fixing it because it was so easy to fix. He went far and above and I was happy. After 3 years with American Home Shield at ~$550/year, I am quitting. This means they will lose $550/year for the next 30 years or so. My washing machine was having issues so I called AHS and was able to schedule someone to come out and look at it within a week. This was on the 20th of March. Not bad. A & R Appliance however, which seems to be the only company they are contracted within the Fresno area Sucks!!! The tech they sent to our house told my husband that we would have the part in 6 business days. (Not 6 business days after the order gets approved and then ordered.) Would have been nice to know this. Waited a week and called to see the status on the parts ordered since I hadn't heard from anyone. Was then told that the parts were finally approved on the 31st (the tech came out on the 27th) and that A & R would have the part by the 7th of April, and that the order and work is scheduled to be completed by the 11th.
Today is the 10th and have yet to hear from anyone so I called to see what the status was, and when they would be in to fix the machine as it was noted to be completed tomorrow. I was told that they got the part in on the 7th but that they wouldn't be able to come until next week to complete. Asked why this was and was told that they would need two techs to come out and service our washer and that they would have to coordinate their schedules. (Is there only two techs that work for this company???)
At this point I am beyond irritated as we have now been without our washing machine for almost a month next week. Huge inconvenience considering I've had to make several trips to the laundromat to do laundry, which accumulates pretty fast with a household of five. I usually don't leave a bad review but this is just irritating. Called AHS to see if we could request someone else to service our home, and was told that the parts were already ordered that we could not. I have never had an issue with AHS before, but this leaves me very dissatisfied. Needless to say I told AHS to NEVER send A & R Appliance to service our needs in the future.

I've never used the website before though and had to register. Typically, when I have a claim on my house, I would call in and pay for it. Then they would schedule whoever was the closest in order to get done whatever you needed to get done.
The contractors they have sent have been good so far. I have my mother, wife and two daughters at home, and I’ve never had one that was creepy or disrespectful. They come in and do what they do. I verify that they did it and sign off, then they go on about their way. I’ve never spent anything out of pocket too nor had to call them back for a fix. The house is 21 years old and some things happen. I'm paying contractors a little over $600 a year, which pays for itself with the first call I make to get something repaired. I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and they’re very good. I have used five different companies before and in the end, I decide to go by this one. In fact, I have 10 policies with them now. The service is above average and and the price is okay. This way, I also do not need to handle so many different accounts. The coverage is a big problem though, and the trouble is their local service provider. With the coverage, the local plumber would use all of the excuses for not meeting the building code and charge me up to $800 to put a water heater in the house. It ends up with big trouble with all of the code updates.
So one suggestion I have is to get rid of the code update. If there’s a problem and a customer has to upgrade to the current code, it should be all covered. This way, the customer does not need to deal with the local contractor for all of those hassles. I have one company, Republic, and they have best service. Let's say that I paid 10% more and they will cover up to code so whatever is not up to the code, they would identify the problem and bring it up to the code. It’s all covered in the insurance.

Most recently, I had claims with American Home Shield. One was my air conditioning check-up and then another one was for my electrical and then another one was for my dryer. Submitting the claim works really well because I can do it online and I just identify what I need to have replaced and fixed, and I might have a little bit of follow-up with the company that’s gonna come out and do the work. I just give them a little bit more background, but it works so well.
For the electric claim, we thought we had a power surge at one time when we were away on vacation about a month ago. I had three outlets in my kitchen that were knocked out and something had happened to the fan in my master bathroom where it wasn’t working. So, AHS got the company to come out, and they were quick with the kitchen. A couple of the receptacles would get knocked out, and they replaced one of those, and it went quickly. And then for the bathroom fan, they just had to come back a couple days later because AHS has some height requirement that they can work on. The fan in our bathroom is over eight feet high up on the ceiling. But, overall, they did a really good job, and they were quick and efficient.
It was McClerkin’s Electrical Service that came out and they did good. We have some other electrical work that wouldn't be covered under my warranty. We would definitely contact them for that. Now, if we have any other electrical issues, I’d rather have McClerkin’s come back than anybody else. We used to have another company, but we were really getting dissatisfied with their service. And so, I talked to a couple other people that had American Home Shield and I decided to make the change. And so far, we’ve been happy with that. American Home Shield hasn’t let us down at all yet. We haven’t had any difficulties. I’d recommend them.

I've been very pleased with the technicians that have come out to do the repairs. We were in the process of selling of our house and there was a diverter and a faucet that wasn't working. We called American Home Shield and have put a voice claim in. DMB Plumbing were very prompt. They responded within 48 hours and I had an appointment set. They were in and out here in about half an hour and they got the issue taken care of.
However, I think that the customer service with American Home Shield has a lot to be desired for. They could use a lot of improvement. There is a very big language barrier and there's a lot of frustrations that's derived from this. I had a list of claims following that with a dishwasher and I had to call and find updates on the statuses of the particular claims. Our conversation goes usually telling me that it's my responsibility to call if they don't call, and to follow up on my claims. I'm paying for their service and I shouldn't have to be tracking them down. We can go like this for 7 to 10 days, and I'm still here making all the phone calls. Their wait time is between 17 and 26 minutes. Those wait times are too long. The last two times that I've had issues with, I had to call the regional manager in charge of the order to get someone to move quickly on to do something. Sometimes I found that it was more cost-effective to go other places to get a better deal on employees.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

I have had American Home Shield for about three years now and my most recent claim with American Home Shield was for our washing machine. I submitted it online and it was really simple. Raleigh Jones Repair Service came out and they were very professional. It was a great experience. It took about a week for them to fix it because they had to order parts. Our washing machine is old and they didn’t have the parts in the trucks. Our washing machine is working better than before it was broken. They did a great job repairing it.

I've been with American Home Shield for 15 to 20 years and since I like talking to people, I usually submit claims by phone. I had a claim for my stove and my experience in submitting that claim was outstanding. During the time the stove was off, it was making a little noise. But The Supreme Service Group came out and it took them maybe 24 hours to complete the claim. The technician talked about the oven and told me that it was not old but they don’t make that model anymore. He cleaned it and did what he had to do, and it's working now.

When I submitted a claim with American Home Shield, the representative that I spoke to was very friendly. I'm so used to getting the runaround, but she was very helpful and reached out to the contractor. The contractor got in touch with me two hours later, then we had an appointment booked for the following day. When the technicians came out three weeks ago, they were on time. The gentleman technician that came out was very kind. He and his associate were very professional and polite. There was something wrong and it was a mess when they found it. I really enjoyed their service and it was a good experience.
Everything that the technicians fixed is still working fine, but the ceiling fan and the lights have stopped working, so I have to get them out here. But the kids are on spring break and everything is hectic, so I haven't been able to call the contractor to report this matter and have them send back the gentleman technician that came out. Other than that, I have no issues and I would recommend them. AHS has good customer service and they seemed to care. Also, they called afterwards and checked to see how the repair went, so that was really nice. So far, my experience with AHS has been good and I am happy and satisfied.

The contractor who came out for an electrical issue that we had seemed to know what he was doing. He's friendly and self-assured, so that was good. Everything is working fine now. When we've had claims filed in the past, if the contractor that American Home Shield was using was not available, they do not allow us to request another contractor that can come. They make us wait on that contractor. It was infuriating. We had to wait for days. Also, I submitted claims with American Home Shield over the phone and I have had problems before. I think there's a disconnect between some of the phone personnel and the requests that are being made or my frustration with my issues not being resolved when I talk to people over the phone. It was not like that with the latest call, though.

I've had American Home Shield for a couple of years now and I've always been satisfied with the timely manner that a claim is taken care of and with the companies that they work with. I've had quite a few different technicians come out to my house and they've always been very respectable and knowledgeable. My only thing is that although all my appliances were bought at the same time, for some reason, my microwave wasn't put on to my contract that I've been on for two years. That was kind of annoying. Why wouldn't my microwave be on there? I have an oven and stove combo, and my microwave is on top of that. It's the same brand too.
I usually call when I have a claim since it's quicker for me. Most recently, S & I Appliances came out for my refrigerator and they were great. They had to come out three times because they had fixed something but then that didn't fix it. First, the ice maker wasn't working and then it started leaking in the water filter. But each time they came out, they were just taking the next step and fixing it. There were no problems and the technicians were very knowledgeable.
The company also communicates well and I'm actually very satisfied. I usually get a phone call right away from them, on the same day, and the lady who calls handles it very professionally. Even when they would have to get a part, they would communicate. They would tell me that they're gonna have to get the part. Then they would be calling the next day to say that they got the part and that they would come back out on this day. Then they would come back out and take care of it. They also call when they're on their way.

I had Total Air Care come out to do the pre-seasons check. That went well except that the tech said that there was a problem with the one air-conditioner and he couldn't do anything with it because it required electrical work, which he couldn't do. So I had that done because it wasn't covered under the home warranty. He also told me that I needed to do a work order to get the thermostat taken care of because he couldn't do that on preventative maintenance. So, I called AHS and set a claim up for that. Then the tech came out and replaced that.
But the next thing I knew, I got a call from somebody saying that AHS had requested a work order for ductwork, which kinda confused me because I didn't request it. And when the technician came out, he said he was there for a heating problem. But I told him that I didn't have a problem with my heat. After all, it was summer at the time and I was using air-conditioner, not heat. But he said that that was what was on his ticket. So I logged in and showed him what was on my page where it showed ductwork. So he didn't do anything and he left.
Since he didn't do anything, then I should be authorized a refund for the service call, so I'd put in a claim for that with AHS. I called them and they did a refund request. They said it would take 14 to 21 days and right now, I'm still within that waiting period. Other than that, the technician was knowledgeable on everything. It just sounded to me like there was somebody who got the wheel turned around backwards. Also, I would still recommend AHS to a friend. In fact, I recommended them to my son and he signed up with them as well.

American Home Shield invited me to get a pre-season air conditioning tune-up and check over so I responded to their offer. They sent a request to the contractor. The contractor contacted me, showed up, and did the work. He answered my questions that were strictly related to what he was doing. I then paid American Home Shield. I'm very satisfied with AHS and I like their service. I make a profit every year so it's great. But they need to improve their queue algorithms and coverage. It's literally 45 minutes to an hour every time that you call their number to file a claim or ask a question. It's way too long in the queue. I've spent over an hour multiple times waiting to get my call answered. Their normal contact number is severely undermanned.

I left AHS just in time not that I had to but wanted. It was good to have when first purchase of home. Once that year was over then that’s when your coverage goes down unless you buy more. Calling to customer service is like pulling teeth without numbing medication. Being told that you're not going to be charged a service fee because it took three days in a cold home for someone to figure out what’s wrong. Then you're still charged and you give the person and date this promise was made and no rep can find that info.
I literally stayed on the phone for an hour talking to three different people in what sound like an outsourced customer service in India. No one could answer my question or see why I was still charged a service fee of $75. In the end received a letter telling me I’m owed nothing. Thanks for wasting my time over the years and taking my money over false promises. Will never or tell people that this good service to have. AHS sucks at customer service and will take your money. You’ll be on a long conversation with people who have limited knowledge of your situation. It’s not about the money, it’s the principle. I guess I’ll be writing this off. Never again!

I'm upset with American Home Shield. I once had them replace a GE dishwasher, which was one of the best dishwashers GE made, with two very low-level units that leaked. Now, we filed a claim for those to units and American Home Shield had them replaced. The repair company came, pulled the leaking units out, took them, and was going to install a new one. However, there was water damage in the drywall and the repair company told me that they wouldn't be able to install the new units until those were removed.
American Home Shield had somebody call me right away, which I was happy with, but that person didn't know anything. I was told that American Home Shield doesn't pay for secondary damage but I said that if I couldn't get the new dishwasher installed, then I would call that primary damage. I was then told that as soon as the dishwasher got installed, it belongs to us, and not to them. I was also told that the least that they could do was pay for the service call. That was their customer service approach. I also asked to speak to their legal people but I was told that they don't have a department like that. So I have to go and hire someone on my own. I asked them who to call but they couldn't direct me to anyone. I still haven't gotten anybody here and so I had to put the new dishwasher in the garage.
Then before, I had a microwave that wasn't working. American Home Shield had a magnetron put in it but the one put in was defective so the repair company had to come back out and put a brand new one in. That happened within 60 days, and the new one that was put in worked. However, now, I have a bill for it. It was a recall and I should not be charged. My husband is a realtor and at one point, we had 10 warranties with American Home Shield. Right now, we have seven warranties with them, so we really give them a lot of business every year. They have got to do better.

I had a technician come through AHS to make sure I didn’t have any underlying issue with my wires in the house so he came by and did an inspection. Everything checked out fine. And then he changed some of the things that needed to be changed so everything worked out perfectly.
I prefer doing my claims online. But one time I had a problem I was able to call in and just kinda get talked through some of the procedures. Everything worked out fine. My son and my wife were there during the repair and they felt comfortable with both of the technicians. They were impressed with the professionalism. I went online to do a service request for my washing machine that stopped spinning. I immediately got a text and email that Dan Gleason Appliance Service would be contacting me about setting up an appointment within 48 business hours. 72 hours later I had to contact Dan Gleason to set up an appointment which was now 4 days out. Immediately charged my credit card for the service fee. So a week after requesting service a repairman shows up for the appointment which was a 4 hour window. After looking at the washing machine for 10 minutes and commenting how this washer was no good because it was made in South Korea and why would you ever buy this brand, he decided he needed parts. He was going to order them and get back to me.
A week later I still have not heard from him. I call the repairman's office and they said they would check with AHS to get a tracking # for the parts and call me back. No callback. Meanwhile I call AHS to see if I can find out where the parts are and the customer service person, who spoke with a heavy Indian accent, was not understandable. I indicated that I could not understand her and could she transfer me to another agent. She kept reading a set speech as if she did not even hear me. I kept saying I could not understand her but she just kept talking. I finally had to hang up and call back to get a different agent. This agent said parts were on their way and I should be hearing from repairman to reschedule the service call. Meanwhile, I've been without a washer for 2 weeks.
Finally on week 3 after more phone calls to repair company, they schedule another appointment to fix the washer. Dan Gleason shows up with no parts on a Tuesday, starts taking the back off the machine and sits the parts on my dryer with no cover. Then declares he doesn't have the tool to fix it and he will have to come back tomorrow. So I said fine as long as he was coming back tomorrow, Wednesday. So now I'm using my 2nd day of vacation to be home. Next day comes and no repairman. I call the office and they tell me they will find out where he is and call me back. 2 hours later, no callback and no repairman. I call the office again, now it goes straight to voicemail.
I call AHS to find out what is going on, I've been without a washer for 3 weeks and the repairman has done nothing. They say they are going to call him to find out what is going on and they too get no response. I tell them I can't take another vacation day and I don't feel that this repairman even knows what he is doing. Can they send someone else? The AHS agent says to me, "How can you expect to get your washer fixed if you aren't available to be there for the repairman." Really? I've been home for two days just to get this washer fixed. Also, the agent says if the first repairman took apart your machine no other repairman will touch it as they don't want to be responsible for what someone else did. So now I am held hostage to using this repairman.
I told her I already wasted 2 vacation days waiting around for him to no avail. She then proceeded to schedule him for the next Monday at 10 am and I told I was not available. Could she try either 8 am or 11:30 am to try and work with my work schedule. She said she would send the repairman an email and get back to me the next day, Thursday. Of course the next day, I did not hear from AHS. At this point I was done with this whole company and repairman. I call AHS on Friday to cancel the service call as I did not want that repairman back in my house and I did not want to deal with AHS at all. I spent at least 30 minutes on the phone explaining why I wanted to cancel the warranty contract and to cancel the service call for Monday. I did not want the repairman showing up at my house ever again.
I confirmed 3 time with the agent that the warranty contract and service call were cancelled and that I would hear from an accounting specialist on Monday about getting my service charge refunded. I get an email confirming cancellation of my contract although the contract # in the email did not match the number I had. Lo and behold, I am at work on Monday and who shows up at my door? The repairman rings my doorbell and because I have Ring I can see that it is him. I tell him the service call was cancelled and I went with someone else. He then tries to open my door. He says he has the parts now. I told him I cancelled the service call.
I call AHS back to find out why the repairman showed up at my house after I cancelled the service call and my contract on Friday. I referenced the contract number they sent in the cancellation email and they said that wasn't my contract and they see notes about everything that was going on but no cancellation form was filed. I was upset to say the least. I said to go back and listen to your "recorded" service call from Friday where it was confirmed 3 times that the service call was cancelled and the contract was cancelled. The guy on the phone said he could process the cancellation now and could I hold on. I said sure, just cancel everything and refund my service charge since nothing was ever fixed.
Meanwhile while I am on hold I get an email that says "your service call was completed by Dan Gleason" and to take a survey. I told the guy on the phone about it to make sure that the repairman does not get credit for completing the service because he did nothing. He says he made a note. So he supposedly has cancelled the warranty contract and sent my request to accounting to review my request for a refund. He says it will take 3-5 business days to hear back. I'm sure I will be making more phone calls to get my refund. Stay away from AHS. Their contractors are unprofessional and their customer service center is a joke. I guess they figure if they drag things out long enough you will just give up? How this company was rated the best in the industry I cannot understand. If this is the best I can't even imagine how the other ones are.
I hate to hear that you were not satisfied with the service received with AHS. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield has sent no less than 8 technicians, over a 3 year period, to, service our AC unit. All but 2 of these companies told us that we needed Freon and charged US accordingly as AHS only covers $10 per pound. The last 2 service techs said that we had a Freon leak. If this was so, why wasn’t it repaired. Most of the technicians were not competent AC repairmen, in my opinion. The unit continues to ice up and, since we live in FL, it may be a very hot summer. We have to hold on the phone, sometimes up to an hour, and no one ever follows up when we request a call back from a supervisor. Between the yearly premium and the $75 service, combines with the hundreds of dollars in Freon, we could have replaced the unit, which AHS refuses to do, despite the multiple service calls.

American Home Shield refuses to replace my refrigerator! Our ice machine has been broken since May 2018. Since the first visit of the repairman, they have had to come out an additional 10 times to try to repair the ice machine. That's a total of 11 TIMES!!! So many parts have been replaced, and in some cases, parts have been replaced multiple times. Yet I still don't have a working ice maker. Since the appliance company keeps on ordering different parts in an attempt to fix it, AHS refuses to say it's not repairable. I've had to take 11 days off since May for them to come and try to fix the fridge. Did I mention 11 TIMES?!? I've called and pleaded, begged, and wept on the phone with the customer reps, and they simply say there is nothing they can do but let the appliance guys keep trying. If you are considering AHS, don't do it. They will make you use all your vacation days in repair visits, and still end up with a broken appliance.

I called on March 6 and my thermostat went haywire and was on max heat, and the thermostat was set on 60 degrees. When I got home it was 98 degrees in my home and my small 4 pound dog almost died. I called AHS multiple times and they said it would be days before someone could come out and the nearest company was in 2 hours away. I was left no choice but have the repair done myself and now I'm being harassed by AHS to pay them $75 dollars and no one ever came out to my house. I have wasted hours of time trying to speak with someone at AHS. I wouldn't advise purchasing this warranty, the customer service is awful and I wouldn't even give them one star.... My pet almost died and they didn't care!

Navigating through American Home Shield’s website was easy when I submitted a claim over the internet for our garage. The cable wire came undone and the garage door wouldn’t move. I was sent an email that someone will be in contact within 24 hours. Then, somebody contacted us and scheduled an appointment within a day. When the contractor came, he waited for us because we were late and our interaction with them was very good. Having a home warranty is invaluable and since then, the garage has been operating well.

I've had American Home Shield for several years and I've had reasonably good interactions with them. When I submit a claim, I like to call. I wanna talk to a live person and tell them what my problem is. If I couldn't get through, I would use the web as a backup. My preference though is calling. The customer service reps I worked with were good. Although they had a standardized script, it still beats going on the web. So far, one of the difficulties I’ve had in the past was convincing them for a survey for an air conditioning here in South Texas when it was in the 90s and the 100s, that it was in a quote. It couldn't be routine and somebody would come out in four days. I needed somebody within 24 to 48 hours.
They make a claim and then the contractor will contact you in a day or two. And then when they contact you, they'll tell you that they'll see you the next week. Sometimes, where it’s an emergency and I needed somebody within 24 hours, I might not get an appointment for a week. So speed would be an improvement. In addition, AHS should have companies that do emergency work. They should let them know that they're gonna get called on the last-minute stuff rather than do that to all the contractors. Other than that, I had seen in the newsletter that AHS sent me that they were running specials for the $75 service call. That I'd get a spring cleaning check-up. So I did that and the contractor that came out was excellent. I appreciate the feedback from American Home Shield for setting something up like that.
Good afternoon Kevin,
It is always a pleasure to read good feedback from our customers experiences. We hop you continue to enjoy the coverage and professionalism that AHS strives to exceed.

We had a problem with some backup in a slow-draining sink in our bathroom and there were some water that came back up and brought some debris with it. We thought it might need to be snaked. When Eric, the gentleman from Up To Code Plumbing, came out, he looked at it and was able to analyze it right away. We live in a condo with a condo above us and a condo below us and he said that what it was was coming from a common line for all three condos and it was blowing back into our sink. Our sink was running okay and it was on our drain. He diagnosed that and suggested contacting the condo association because the common line would be their responsibility. I talked to the condo association and they are working on it now.
My overall experience with American Home Shield has been good, thus far. The only negative that I've had which was more frustrating than anything was they inadvertently double charged us for a fee that we pay whenever somebody comes out and it remained on our account for several months while we were trying to get it off. We had to talk to people almost every week who said they were gonna get it removed, but it took several months to happen.

We have a black top stove and the two front burners weren’t operating as they should have. We filed a claim to American Home Shield. We did that online and it was easy doing that. The technician came out and he determined that the controllers for the knobs were bad from based on his observation. We waited about a week for the parts to come in, and then he came back and replaced those. He was also cordial, professional and very respectful. Ever since everything has been good. We've been with AHS for about nine years. Over the years, everything has been good. Customer service hasn’t been detrimental and hasn’t been bad at all. If there was any misunderstanding, there was always a workaround with it.

He did okay with communication as far as what the issue was. However, I had to call the contractor back because the fridge wasn’t working. I called immediately, and then I called them again back in the morning since it was after hours, and I got a phone call back within an hour and someone was out in two hours. The contractor was very good and friendly and the work done was excellent. Everything is taken care of and has been working perfectly. I’ve been very satisfied with the experience in the past two months that I’ve been with AHS. I would highly recommend them.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield goes through very easily. I do it by phone and talk to a live person. My most recent claim was for a TV mounting and I also had a prior claim for the garage door. Garage Door Expert came out and the guy was very informative. He answered all the questions that I needed to ask. He had to change my panel and reset my code, and got it all done in about 15 minutes.

I had surgery done in February. When I came home, my son put a load of dishes in the dishwasher and it started to run. And as it gets to the cycle where it rinses the water out, it started coming out through that little vent on the top instead of going through the drain. I thought it was something that got clogged, and it would go away. But after several days, it didn't.
I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The reps I worked with were very professional and understanding since I told them I had problems with sitting up since the surgery and I can't bend or twist so they made it convenient for me to get whatever I needed to get and then settle down so that I can get the request put in. The guy from Battle Born Heating & Cooling came out the next day and he said that whoever put in the dishwasher, didn't put in a hole. It didn't make sense to me but he was here for 10 minutes, working on it and it was fixed. All he did was take out one part and attach it to the same spot on the new one. Since the repair, I haven't had any more issues at all.

I put in a call to American Home Shield a week ago and they sent a company out, but it was a company that could not work on the refrigerator, even though I had given American Home Shield the information on the unit as far as the model number and everything else. They were supposed to send another company out last Monday, but they did not. It was canceled because somebody called out sick. They were supposed to come back out Wednesday, but they called back and canceled. They said that they couldn’t get here on the 15th, then they sent me an email saying it would be on the 18th. I’ve been waiting for a callback from them. It was unacceptable. I can’t have a refrigerator down for weeks. That is not what I call home insurance or repair or replacement of the unit.
The guy from the first company was very nice. He showed me what the problem was and he said that it was a closed or sealed unit. He said that they couldn’t work on those and that somebody else was gonna have to come out. American Home Shield said they were gonna send out Sears, but Sears never showed up. I got an email saying they were gonna come out on the 11th, but that is not acceptable either. It was my first experience with American Home Shield and I am really unhappy. I am not going to recommend them to my friends.

The water tank wasn't filling properly. I had tried to see if I could remedy the issue myself but then, when I ended up turning off the valve from the wall, it started leaking a bit. I thought it was a bit more serious than what I initially thought the problem was. I called to submit my claim to American Home Shield and the wait wasn't that bad. It was handled quickly.
The following day, someone was able to schedule me out. But according to the maintenance company and plumbing service, their soonest available appointment was later in the week. It wasn't a big deal though. When they sent a technician over, he arrived promptly and was very professional. He fixed the issue and replaced all the parts in 20 minutes. Everything was handled with a good priority to it and everything that needed to be fixed has been fixed properly.
