The service of American Home Shield and the interaction with the contractor were fine. When I called a claim in over the phone, through a robot call, I got a text and the contractor came out the same day. The contractor was very good and quick. They took care of the problem and they had to replace the garage door opener. Up until this last contractor though, the ones that they sent out didn’t appear to be very knowledgeable and they were lazy. I wouldn’t hire them. I think American Home Shield doesn't hire quality vendors. So, I wouldn’t recommend going through them.

It takes a long time to get update from AHS. My water heater was leaking two weeks ago. Submit a request and get a plumber come to diagnose. Then there is no response from AHS. It has been more than 10 days to wait. Every time to call the customer service, they just politely tell you to wait and they need a department to approve the replacement of water heater, and they have no idea when it can be approved. How can it take such a long time to make a decision after the diagnosis completed? Without the water heater, we have to take the shower at GYM, how can we wait for a long time? I am forced to give up the warranty and just buy the water heater with installation at Home Depot... which is guaranteed to be completed in two days.

Their service is horrible. I've called and spoken to 8 agents to get my problem resolved and 3 times I get hung up on with no one calling me back although they state they call back if disconnected. I get the runaround on my issue with no resolution and I keep calling for updates with no positive results for more than a week. Their service desk is not empowered to resolve the problems and if you ask for a supervisor the agent tells you that they can do no more than the agent. Are you kidding me!! I'm now searching for how to reach their executive offices and will be filing a complaint with the state regulations department.
Good morning Debra,
I would like to apologize on behalf of your most recent experience and the lack of customer service that you have experienced. I would be glad to speak with you and get your issues resolved.

MY A/C went out on a Saturday in March and it took three (3) days for AHS to send someone out to fix it. A part was changed. In April 6, 2019 my A/C went out again. The tech came out on Tuesday and said another part had to be changed (the compressor). I explain that the compressor was recently changed and he stated that no this is the original. Mind you that this unit was 18 years old. The tech stated that he could not report to American Home Shield that the unit needed to be replaced because all they are going to do is send someone else to verify and the policy is to change the part and keep moving.
I called AMS and explain that the unit is in very poor condition and I was told that unless the tech stated that it needed to be change nothing was going to be done. Please keep in mind that I am also a disabled American veteran and dealing with this has not been easy. I explain to the AHS manager who identified himself as "Mark" what was going on and that I needed the A/C fixed, I have been a customer for over nine years and this was no way to treat a customer. I have tried to talk to them again but I am now getting the runaround and they do not want to recognized that they have made a mistake. I strongly do not recommend this company, they run under false advertisement.

Updated on 04/12/2019: Response - I have reviewed my contract again and you are right. Note that your CS's never said that it wasn't covered in the warranty - not one time. They said they couldn't get authorization for that. My ticket was opened on 21 Mar and it is now 12 April and I still don't have a working refrigerator. 22 days and counting. I am not impressed and if it were you, you wouldn't be impressed either.
Original Review: Well it is a good thing that I was planning on buying a second refrigerator or I would have been entirely without one for almost a month... and still don't have the repair completed. Technician will be here in 4 days. I requested service and of course paid for it online. I was given one possible appointment online that I couldn't use, so I declined that appointment and was told I would hear back within 24 hours for an appointment. A few days later, not having gotten a call back, I called the business that was to do the work. They didn't seem to know anything about it, but made an appointment.
The technician said that parts would take 7-10 days to come in. After two weeks, and now needing a second refrigerator I called AHS. They kept telling me the parts had been received by the technician, but then they would also say they were shipped. I finally asked "Are you confirming that the parts been received by the technician, or just that they have been shipped. The CS person actually then said "Shipped, Received, same thing". We then argued about the difference for several minutes whereas they never confirmed parts had been received. I then asked how to use my insurance for a rental refrigerator since that is covered by my warranty. They refused.
Oh note that neither of us had been able to make contact with the technician (I tried two days in a row). I asked to speak to a manager and they said they had already spoken with a manager and they would tell me the same thing. I said, "Good, let me speak to the manager that you spoke with." They wouldn't budge for several minutes, but then finally put me on hold for 5 minutes. After the wait, a person that sounded similar to the original person identified themselves as the manager and they started asking questions like they had no clue about why I was calling. When I said, "Didn't the CS person just talk to you about this," they said, "Oh" and then started talking like they knew all about it.
Funny thing is the voice changed right back to the first person that I talked to, confirming that I was talking to the same person. They promised that I would hear back in <24 hours, but they wouldn't give me a rental. Around 48 hours later I called back, not having heard anything. This time I got a guy who started the "parts have been ordered routine", so I said, "No problem, I need a rental". He said, "We can't do that, since parts should be arriving or have arrived..." I said, "Call the technician," since no one can get ahold of him. I guess he was successful, since next thing I know, the technician is on the line, but the AHS CS wasn't. In other words he linked us together and hung up.
The good news is the parts have arrived as of yesterday. The bad news is that I have to wait another 4 days, their communication is lacking, they won't honor their warranty related to rental, and I have no idea if the parts are going to actually work or not. I had AHS years ago and was happy with them. Not anymore. They seemed to have farmed the CS out to some group that doesn't care, doesn't respond and outright lies.

I called to request services on my A/C which was very apparent the inside unit was failing. The noise was unbearable and it was vibrating badly. The customer service lady I spoke with simply said, "We don't repair noises." I couldn't get anything else out of her. 2 days later the fans in my unit had a catastrophic failure and probably caused more damage, costing AHS more money than if they had sent out a tech immediately. That was Monday. At point of failure Wednesday I called back to schedule service. They won't be here for two days (Friday) at which point I'm sure I'll have to suffer through the weekend without AC in Texas. I also asked for expedited service...Nope. I then asked to speak with a manager, and after 30 minutes on hold they hung up on me. HORRIBLE!!!! I will be letting my real estate agent and Title company know to guide future home buyers and sellers to other companies instead of this one.

AHS use the high cost of replacing appliance and hvac systems to scare homeowners into purchasing a policy. Then they will pay for minimal repairs until they can find a way to void your warranty so they don't have to replace the system when it ultimately fails. I had two different companies sent out by AHS initially to fix my HVAC when it stopped working. They said it needed freon (which AHS doesn't cover) and a service valve replacement which was done. A couple of months later the HVAC stopped working again and they sent the last company out again and again they said the freon was low and there was a leak but did not fix the leak. They just suggested more freon (not cheap and getting pricier every day.
They sent another company out for a second opinion and that company said there was a cap missing from the system that caused the system to leak so AHS said that voided the warranty and they refused to pay for the repair. When I pushed back that the only companies that had access and would have rempved the cap were AHS contracted companies they said they would escalate it to contractor relations for "research" and proceeded to give me the run around for a couple of weeks. Their customer service is terrible, their supervisors sound identical to their CSRs and say "I understand" a lot like they're robots. I cancelled the policy and am pursuing relief in small claims court.

Shield Plus was purchased by seller as part of my home purchase. Today water heater was leaking into my daughter's room. AHS sent out a technician who determined it was covered. Contractor states that it will cost me $895 out of pocket to be fixed. I call AHS and ask them whether I should do the order through AHS or the contractor. AHS states call contractor. I contact contractor, contractor states that it may actually cost more than $895. I spend the next 2 hours trying to talk to AHS. I ask them why it should be out of pocket at all. Two times they cite section:
D. ADDITIONAL LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS 1. Your Agreement does not cover: d. Repair, replacement, installation, or modification of any Covered Item, or part thereof, that has been determined to be defective by the Consumer Product Safety Commission or other similar regulatory entity or for which a manufacturer or distributor has issued a warning, recall, or determination of defect;
I ask what part is defective or subject to recall as it water pipes. A supervisor then says, oh it is actually section: 4. Except as otherwise specified in your Agreement, AHS is not responsible or liable for: b. Costs of construction, carpentry, or other modifications necessary to remove, relocate, or install a Covered Item or part thereof;
Now remember, this is replacing a water heater. I ask them what specifically is necessary. They state that a door has to be removed for access. I ask them what door, they don't know. They then say that "pipes" need to be modified because they are different sizes. I ask them what water heater they are buying, they don't know. So I ask, how do you know if pipes need to be cut or modified, if you don't even have the water heater and you haven't even attempted to install it.
At that point AHS states that they entirely rely on the contractor and that they do not even attempt to review the quote given to the customer. That they don't even care, because that is between the customer and the contractor. I ask what can I do, I have spoken to other plumbers who have given significantly lower quotes. They state that they can offer a buyout. I tell them that I have previously been offered a buyout, but that it was extremely low. The supervisor checks her system and states no buyout has been offered.
This becomes even more confusing. AHS called me and offered a buyout, which did not even cover the cost to replace the water heater, let alone the labor. Now AHS is denying that it ever happened. I have spent the last 12 hours trying to get a covered issue fixed. Installing a water heater is part of a water heater warranty, but AHS is trying to avoid paying for the labor.
The contract is governed by American Arbitration Association. It seems likes its $200 to file a claim. At this point its almost worth the money to file the arbitration. The worst part is, I have suggested AHS to my clients when they purchase real estate. After this experience I am going to make sure that my attorney review letter's specifically state that the home warranty must not be AHS. Terrible experience, and I am no closer to having a water heater.

We had a problem with our washer timer and we called American Home Shield. The interaction with the claims rep was very good and he gave us a time as to when to expect the contractor. Submitting claims with American Home Shield was fairly easy except when you have appliances or services that fall in different categories. I had a toilet issue and a washer issue, and they were considered separate. So I had to pay two different deductibles and I had two different technicians come out. But being able to combine claims is one of the reasons why I purchased the warranty. The salesperson that I talked to about it had said that that’s what she does. She waits until three to four things break then she calls so she only pays one deductible. But I do see in the packet where there are two different groups.
This was my first time filing a claim and I did it over the phone. When I called the second time, it said that I already had a claim so I had to try to get an operator. So it wasn’t great when I had to call twice and submit. But my only complaint is that since my things broke on a Saturday, I didn’t get any response back until Monday. I didn’t realize that they don’t do contracts on weekend.
The problem with the washer was that it had filled with water but it wouldn't start. American Home Shield sent Book’s Appliance Repair. But when I initially called, American Home Shield gave me a different vendor that wasn't gonna be able to come to my house until four days later. I thought that was my only option so I agreed to it. But then I called and complained about it. I didn’t realize that I could decline that. Home Shield found me a different contractor that had better availability. I didn’t realize that Home Shield has preferred vendors that they recommend right away. But I know that now so if I get one that says they can't come for a week, I can tell Home Shield to give me somebody else.
Both of the technicians who came out were great. They were dressed professionally and they were polite. Both issues were resolved within 20 minutes of them arriving so obviously, they were knowledgeable. The guy that did the plumbing also cleaned up after himself really well. The one from Book’s was okay and I wish they would have wiped their spill a bit better. But they cleaned up all their garbage from when they repaired the part.

It was really late at night, and I went into the bathroom and heard water running. I pulled the shower curtain back and saw water was shooting out of the handle instead of coming out of the faucet where it was supposed to be. I jiggled it and got it to stop. I called American Home Shield and they were great. Their reps were very easy to get ahold of and prompt in the actions. They signed up the plumber.
When the Rapps Heating & AC tech came the next day, we could not duplicate the problem so the call was unwarranted. He said, "Unless you can duplicate it, then there's nothing I can fix." Come to find out, there was a little washer in there that if I jiggle the faucet some more, it will probably recreate the problem. Or the next time I use it, it will probably happen again, but I haven't used that bathroom so I haven't recreated the problem and the tech wasn't able to do it either. It wasn't his fault we couldn't make it happen again. He was nice and professional. If it happens again, he's fine to come back out. I've already recommended American Home Shield.

When we bought our current house, the Realtor paid for a different warranty company for a year. We liked American Home Shield when we had it with our old house and chose them. When we had water coming up out of our shower and our laundry room floor drain, my wife called into AHS. The guy who came out was really nice. He came out the morning we found out about the issue so we didn’t have to worry about much. We just didn’t use the water for a couple of hours. He ran the tool down in the drain and said there was something blocking it, but wasn’t sure what. He got the repair done within 15 minutes though.

American Home Shield is the third warranty company that I’ve had throughout my lifespan and their claims process has been the easiest and the smoothest so far. I’ve had a couple of different claims with AHS. My interactions with them have been pretty much online and I’ve submitted my requests without issue. I’ve gotten automated feedback based on my request, what’s going on, and the process. Recently, the ice maker in my freezer wasn’t working and I submitted a claim with them. The contractor, Coastal Appliance Repair, responded and got out there quickly. There were two service techs and both of them were fine and respectful. They identified the problem and they did what they needed to do. They had the part and came back in a timely manner. Every time they came, they were on time and communicated the process. Right now, I’m pleased with my decision to switch to AHS.

I was thinking it was gonna take a long time but it didn't. He came right over, looked at it and told me exactly what was wrong. He said that there was a crack somewhere to where it would have actually been really dangerous for us to use it. So, he went ahead and shut it off. He shut off the gas and he was very helpful. He explained from top to bottom what he was gonna do, what he did and everything. He was awesome when he was here.
He looked at my stove really quick because one of the burners was not quite working on the back. He ended up fixing it because it was so easy to fix. He went far and above and I was happy. He did a good job. He told us that we needed a new furnace for the main floor. We weren't very happy about that but we were grateful that we had a warranty because that will cover quite a lot of it. He said he couldn’t install the furnace but he would be back. However, he never came back and I haven't heard from AHS since then. They were supposed to order a furnace and get back to me. I waited a whole week but they never even called. I would have to call and talk to them and see where they're at in the process. I'm a professional and needed to get ready for work the next day. So, it limited me and made me rely on my neighbor who gave me hot water. I submitted claims online to American Home Shield in the past but normally, it’s convenient for me to pick up the phone and do it if I don’t have access to my computer right away. I was given 48 hours to expect the contractor although it was an hourly window. Price Right Plumbing got in touch with me expediently. The contractor was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained and went over everything. He had a good personality. He came in and got to work, doing what they do. I'm very satisfied with everything that happened with my service.

After 3 years with American Home Shield at ~$550/year, I am quitting. This means they will lose $550/year for the next 30 years or so. I have HVAC Ductwork coverage, but their inspection of a slightly crushed duct in the crawl space assumed that it was caused by force. How do they determine this? I paid a $125 service fee for the inspection and they will not fix it. I am selling the house and ending my relationship with AHS forever.

I called regarding the hot water dispenser that isn't working. A technician came the next day and said it would be no problem, he would recommend replacing the system. That has been almost TWO MONTHS ago, and nobody from the plumbing company or AHS has contacted us for an update. I have to call every week and be put on terminal hold while they try to contact the plumbing company. They will always say that "they're sorry" but if they had good customer service they would call back like they said they would.

My washing machine was having issues so I called AHS and was able to schedule someone to come out and look at it within a week. This was on the 20th of March. Not bad. A & R Appliance however, which seems to be the only company they are contracted within the Fresno area Sucks!!! The tech they sent to our house told my husband that we would have the part in 6 business days. (Not 6 business days after the order gets approved and then ordered.) Would have been nice to know this. Waited a week and called to see the status on the parts ordered since I hadn't heard from anyone. Was then told that the parts were finally approved on the 31st (the tech came out on the 27th) and that A & R would have the part by the 7th of April, and that the order and work is scheduled to be completed by the 11th.
Today is the 10th and have yet to hear from anyone so I called to see what the status was, and when they would be in to fix the machine as it was noted to be completed tomorrow. I was told that they got the part in on the 7th but that they wouldn't be able to come until next week to complete. Asked why this was and was told that they would need two techs to come out and service our washer and that they would have to coordinate their schedules. (Is there only two techs that work for this company???)
At this point I am beyond irritated as we have now been without our washing machine for almost a month next week. Huge inconvenience considering I've had to make several trips to the laundromat to do laundry, which accumulates pretty fast with a household of five. I usually don't leave a bad review but this is just irritating. Called AHS to see if we could request someone else to service our home, and was told that the parts were already ordered that we could not. I have never had an issue with AHS before, but this leaves me very dissatisfied. Needless to say I told AHS to NEVER send A & R Appliance to service our needs in the future.

I received an offer via email from American Home Shield for an air conditioning system tune-up before summertime. I clicked the link, logged in, then made the request and paid for it online. I've never used the website before though and had to register. Typically, when I have a claim on my house, I would call in and pay for it. Then they would schedule whoever was the closest in order to get done whatever you needed to get done.
The contractors they have sent have been good so far. I have my mother, wife and two daughters at home, and I’ve never had one that was creepy or disrespectful. They come in and do what they do. I verify that they did it and sign off, then they go on about their way. I’ve never spent anything out of pocket too nor had to call them back for a fix. The house is 21 years old and some things happen. I'm paying contractors a little over $600 a year, which pays for itself with the first call I make to get something repaired. To me, AHS is worth the money.

I've been with American Home Shield since December. I had other friends that have other companies so I compared those with AHS. Although I pay more, I get better coverage. I had a plumbing problem recently which I submitted a claim for online, and while the website is user-friendly, there is no option to explain what the problem is. It would be better to be able to describe what the problem is or what the service might be on the website. When I put the order and it was plumbing, they figured it was a minor thing, but this was the main stack for the plumbing that was bad. Nonetheless, the techs who came out were very helpful. They explained in detail what was going on and what was wrong. They gave me a timeline about how long it would take to repair it and explained that we had to first make sure that this was covered under the policy. They were nice and clean and they fixed everything in a timely manner. They were very professional.

The icemaker in the refrigerator. It got clogged up and the reservoir cracked. The water wouldn’t come out. The first person that American Home Shield assigned it to never called us. And so, when we called them, they couldn’t find the time, like they could only come during working hours. They couldn’t even come at 4 o’clock, and they weren’t really that friendly and wanting to work with us. So, we said we would rather have somebody else. And so then, the next people were great. They came out one day. He got it defrosted and so, the water part worked, but we still couldn’t use it because it would leak in the side of the refrigerator. He had to order a part, and he came back later and fixed it.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield worked out really well. I had an outlet that stopped working and I called them. Every time I call, they say they have their system online, but it’s just easier for me to call in. Their response time was good and it didn't take more than a couple of days before I was contacted. A couple of perfectly nice guys came out. I’m a homeowner, so I like to learn some new things if I can. They were kind enough to point out what had happened and what they were doing so it doesn’t happen again. My experience with AHS has been generally good. And I really like that I don’t have to go through Yelp or the yellow pages. I just have to pay a flat fee to have somebody come and fix things.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and they’re very good. I have used five different companies before and in the end, I decide to go by this one. In fact, I have 10 policies with them now. The service is above average and and the price is okay. This way, I also do not need to handle so many different accounts. The coverage is a big problem though, and the trouble is their local service provider. With the coverage, the local plumber would use all of the excuses for not meeting the building code and charge me up to $800 to put a water heater in the house. It ends up with big trouble with all of the code updates.
So one suggestion I have is to get rid of the code update. If there’s a problem and a customer has to upgrade to the current code, it should be all covered. This way, the customer does not need to deal with the local contractor for all of those hassles. I have one company, Republic, and they have best service. Let's say that I paid 10% more and they will cover up to code so whatever is not up to the code, they would identify the problem and bring it up to the code. It’s all covered in the insurance.

Most recently, I had claims with American Home Shield. One was my air conditioning check-up and then another one was for my electrical and then another one was for my dryer. Submitting the claim works really well because I can do it online and I just identify what I need to have replaced and fixed, and I might have a little bit of follow-up with the company that’s gonna come out and do the work. I just give them a little bit more background, but it works so well.
For the electric claim, we thought we had a power surge at one time when we were away on vacation about a month ago. I had three outlets in my kitchen that were knocked out and something had happened to the fan in my master bathroom where it wasn’t working. So, AHS got the company to come out, and they were quick with the kitchen. A couple of the receptacles would get knocked out, and they replaced one of those, and it went quickly. And then for the bathroom fan, they just had to come back a couple days later because AHS has some height requirement that they can work on. The fan in our bathroom is over eight feet high up on the ceiling. But, overall, they did a really good job, and they were quick and efficient.
It was McClerkin’s Electrical Service that came out and they did good. We have some other electrical work that wouldn't be covered under my warranty. We would definitely contact them for that. Now, if we have any other electrical issues, I’d rather have McClerkin’s come back than anybody else. We used to have another company, but we were really getting dissatisfied with their service. And so, I talked to a couple other people that had American Home Shield and I decided to make the change. And so far, we’ve been happy with that. American Home Shield hasn’t let us down at all yet. We haven’t had any difficulties. I’d recommend them.

I had a bad experience with AHS. I called because the downdraft in my kitchen was not working and the first technician said, "No, we don't really see that kind of appliance." The second tech said the same thing. After a while I got the charge of 100 something dollars. That was in October last year and it went back and forth. I even blocked my account number from bank.
Everything was solved supposedly in February. Then in March, it came again. I ended up paying. I had to pay because that was not really what I was waiting for. The customer service was non-existent. In summary "We don't believe you. We will believe the technician who said they came to your house." I will skip American Home Shield's service. I complained so many times and nobody listens to me. Everybody thinks I'm lying. For $106, lying? I will call in a couple days to cancel my contract, and that's it. It's not the money. It's the trust in the customer. Previously, AHS worked well. It was a nice service. It was only that one bad experience. That was the hair in the soup.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield invited me to get a pre-season air conditioning tune-up and check over so I responded to their offer. They sent a request to the contractor. The contractor contacted me, showed up, and did the work. He answered my questions that were strictly related to what he was doing. I then paid American Home Shield. I'm very satisfied with AHS and I like their service. I make a profit every year so it's great. But they need to improve their queue algorithms and coverage. It's literally 45 minutes to an hour every time that you call their number to file a claim or ask a question. It's way too long in the queue. I've spent over an hour multiple times waiting to get my call answered. Their normal contact number is severely undermanned.

I had Total Air Care come out to do the pre-seasons check. That went well except that the tech said that there was a problem with the one air-conditioner and he couldn't do anything with it because it required electrical work, which he couldn't do. So I had that done because it wasn't covered under the home warranty. He also told me that I needed to do a work order to get the thermostat taken care of because he couldn't do that on preventative maintenance. So, I called AHS and set a claim up for that. Then the tech came out and replaced that.
But the next thing I knew, I got a call from somebody saying that AHS had requested a work order for ductwork, which kinda confused me because I didn't request it. And when the technician came out, he said he was there for a heating problem. But I told him that I didn't have a problem with my heat. After all, it was summer at the time and I was using air-conditioner, not heat. But he said that that was what was on his ticket. So I logged in and showed him what was on my page where it showed ductwork. So he didn't do anything and he left.
Since he didn't do anything, then I should be authorized a refund for the service call, so I'd put in a claim for that with AHS. I called them and they did a refund request. They said it would take 14 to 21 days and right now, I'm still within that waiting period. Other than that, the technician was knowledgeable on everything. It just sounded to me like there was somebody who got the wheel turned around backwards. Also, I would still recommend AHS to a friend. In fact, I recommended them to my son and he signed up with them as well.

The gentleman technician that came out was very kind. He and his associate were very professional and polite. There was something wrong and it was a mess when they found it. I really enjoyed their service and it was a good experience.
Everything that the technicians fixed is still working fine, but the ceiling fan and the lights have stopped working, so I have to get them out here. But the kids are on spring break and everything is hectic, so I haven't been able to call the contractor to report this matter and have them send back the gentleman technician that came out. Other than that, I have no issues and I would recommend them. AHS has good customer service and they seemed to care. I've had American Home Shield for a couple of years now and I've always been satisfied with the timely manner that a claim is taken care of and with the companies that they work with. I've had quite a few different technicians come out to my house and they've always been very respectable and knowledgeable. My only thing is that although all my appliances were bought at the same time, for some reason, my microwave wasn't put on to my contract that I've been on for two years. That was kind of annoying. Why wouldn't my microwave be on there? I have an oven and stove combo, and my microwave is on top of that. It's the same brand too.
I usually call when I have a claim since it's quicker for me. Most recently, S & I Appliances came out for my refrigerator and they were great. They had to come out three times because they had fixed something but then that didn't fix it. First, the ice maker wasn't working and then it started leaking in the water filter. But each time they came out, they were just taking the next step and fixing it. There were no problems and the technicians were very knowledgeable.
The company also communicates well and I'm actually very satisfied. I usually get a phone call right away from them, on the same day, and the lady who calls handles it very professionally. Even when they would have to get a part, they would communicate. They would tell me that they're gonna have to get the part. Then they would be calling the next day to say that they got the part and that they would come back out on this day. Then they would come back out and take care of it. They also call when they're on their way.

Then you're still charged and you give the person and date this promise was made and no rep can find that info.
I literally stayed on the phone for an hour talking to three different people in what sound like an outsourced customer service in India. I'm upset with American Home Shield. I once had them replace a GE dishwasher, which was one of the best dishwashers GE made, with two very low-level units that leaked. Now, we filed a claim for those to units and American Home Shield had them replaced. The repair company came, pulled the leaking units out, took them, and was going to install a new one. However, there was water damage in the drywall and the repair company told me that they wouldn't be able to install the new units until those were removed.
American Home Shield had somebody call me right away, which I was happy with, but that person didn't know anything. I was told that American Home Shield doesn't pay for secondary damage but I said that if I couldn't get the new dishwasher installed, then I would call that primary damage. I was then told that as soon as the dishwasher got installed, it belongs to us, and not to them. I was also told that the least that they could do was pay for the service call. That was their customer service approach. I also asked to speak to their legal people but I was told that they don't have a department like that. So I have to go and hire someone on my own. I asked them who to call but they couldn't direct me to anyone. I still haven't gotten anybody here and so I had to put the new dishwasher in the garage.
Then before, I had a microwave that wasn't working. American Home Shield had a magnetron put in it but the one put in was defective so the repair company had to come back out and put a brand new one in. That happened within 60 days, and the new one that was put in worked. However, now, I have a bill for it. It was a recall and I should not be charged. My husband is a realtor and at one point, we had 10 warranties with American Home Shield. Right now, we have seven warranties with them, so we really give them a lot of business every year. They have got to do better.

Having American Home Shield gave us peace of mind as we purchased our new home. Pop-A-Lock recently came out to change the locks from the previous homeowner so that we had new locks. Submitting a claim for it was very easy, and it was a good process. I discussed it over the phone first when I discovered I needed to provide a credit card number for the $75 portion that was due by us. Then at a later date, I went online and scheduled the service. The tech was very courteous. He was professional in his appearance and in his demeanor. He did the job quickly and efficiently, and we were very pleased. The entire experience was positive, and I felt that I had good support from both the service provider and American Home Shield.

AHS was outstanding. The main concern that I had was that one of my light fixtures, a light bulb, just exploded in the fixture. As I was going through, I realized that some of the outlets were not working properly. I had a technician come through AHS to make sure I didn’t have any underlying issue with my wires in the house so he came by and did an inspection. Everything checked out fine. And then he changed some of the things that needed to be changed so everything worked out perfectly.
I prefer doing my claims online. But one time I had a problem I was able to call in and just kinda get talked through some of the procedures. Everything worked out fine. My son and my wife were there during the repair and they felt comfortable with both of the technicians. They were impressed with the professionalism. The tech explained everything to them where I didn’t have to call them back to follow up to find out what they actually did. Everything was well. I was very impressed with them. I've been promoting American Home Shield. I feel like I should be an employee.

I couldn’t get any hot water and I called American Home Shield. The first guy that they sent didn’t do it right. He didn’t hook the electricity to the heater. American Home Shield had to send another guy out and he completed the job the other guy didn’t do right on the water heater in the basement. Sometime after that, another water heater started acting up and AHS sent a guy out who is replacing that water heater. I’ve had good experience with American Home Shield. Their people on the phone are so nice and courteous. I’ve had this company for about four years with my home. I have another home in Little River and a house next door and I added all three of those. I am thoroughly happy and I tell everybody about AHS. I’ve told my son and he’s over all the real estate at Baylor and he said he’s fixing to take that out, too.

American Home Shield sent Arizona LLC out to troubleshoot the microwave 'cause it was not cooking anymore. The techs told me it was a bad magnetron so they ordered the part. They came back four days later with the part and they replaced it, but it did not fix the issue. The other technician said it was a transformer, not the magnetron. Three days passed by and I got an email from American Home Shield saying that the part couldn't be ordered and the appliance could not be fixed. So, they gave me options to replace the microwave. Everybody was professional and courteous, and they cleaned up their own messes from the other company. I recently went back to school and we decided to get a home warranty just in case anything comes around, and it paid off on this claim.

I go online to submit claims and their website is really good. I like that that during a weekday, I get an immediate response. I also appreciate that I get a phone call from the contractor that American Home Shield identified for me. I also like that the contractors call to let me know that they're on their way. When the contractors get here, they give me a call. They're very clean and don't look like they just got through working another job. They're professional and normally show up on time. Plus they put on those little booties before they walk into the house. When one of my air conditioning units stopped working, I filed a claim and the contractor worked on it, did the system check to find out what the problem was and fixed it.

I did a ton of research on what American Home Shield had to offer against other ones as well as the pricing. I had never been on a home warranty before, so it was just a hunch when I decided on them, along with the Realtor helping us. The Realtor liked what she saw, she broke it down and explained what they would cover. So, we felt we had a need of all those things to be in place because you never know.
When submitting claims to American Home Shield, I normally tell the problem over the phone, I give them my credit card number and then, they dispatch someone out. It depends on when it is. This time, we had a bad pipe leak and it was four days later before we could get someone out here. I was disappointed about that but the reps from Haywood who came out was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. They found the issue and told us what they had to do to fix it. They had what they needed with them to fix it. When they left, it was doing okay and I haven’t seen a problem so far.

I went online to do a service request for my washing machine that stopped spinning. I immediately got a text and email that Dan Gleason Appliance Service would be contacting me about setting up an appointment within 48 business hours. 72 hours later I had to contact Dan Gleason to set up an appointment which was now 4 days out. Immediately charged my credit card for the service fee. So a week after requesting service a repairman shows up for the appointment which was a 4 hour window. After looking at the washing machine for 10 minutes and commenting how this washer was no good because it was made in South Korea and why would you ever buy this brand, he decided he needed parts. He was going to order them and get back to me.
A week later I still have not heard from him. I call the repairman's office and they said they would check with AHS to get a tracking # for the parts and call me back. No callback. Meanwhile I call AHS to see if I can find out where the parts are and the customer service person, who spoke with a heavy Indian accent, was not understandable. I indicated that I could not understand her and could she transfer me to another agent. She kept reading a set speech as if she did not even hear me. I kept saying I could not understand her but she just kept talking. I finally had to hang up and call back to get a different agent. This agent said parts were on their way and I should be hearing from repairman to reschedule the service call. Meanwhile, I've been without a washer for 2 weeks.
Finally on week 3 after more phone calls to repair company, they schedule another appointment to fix the washer. Dan Gleason shows up with no parts on a Tuesday, starts taking the back off the machine and sits the parts on my dryer with no cover. Then declares he doesn't have the tool to fix it and he will have to come back tomorrow. So I said fine as long as he was coming back tomorrow, Wednesday. So now I'm using my 2nd day of vacation to be home. Next day comes and no repairman. I call the office and they tell me they will find out where he is and call me back. 2 hours later, no callback and no repairman. I call the office again, now it goes straight to voicemail.
I call AHS to find out what is going on, I've been without a washer for 3 weeks and the repairman has done nothing. They say they are going to call him to find out what is going on and they too get no response. I tell them I can't take another vacation day and I don't feel that this repairman even knows what he is doing. Can they send someone else? The AHS agent says to me, "How can you expect to get your washer fixed if you aren't available to be there for the repairman." Really? I've been home for two days just to get this washer fixed. Also, the agent says if the first repairman took apart your machine no other repairman will touch it as they don't want to be responsible for what someone else did. So now I am held hostage to using this repairman.
I told her I already wasted 2 vacation days waiting around for him to no avail. She then proceeded to schedule him for the next Monday at 10 am and I told I was not available. Could she try either 8 am or 11:30 am to try and work with my work schedule. She said she would send the repairman an email and get back to me the next day, Thursday. Of course the next day, I did not hear from AHS. At this point I was done with this whole company and repairman. I call AHS on Friday to cancel the service call as I did not want that repairman back in my house and I did not want to deal with AHS at all. I spent at least 30 minutes on the phone explaining why I wanted to cancel the warranty contract and to cancel the service call for Monday. I did not want the repairman showing up at my house ever again.
I confirmed 3 time with the agent that the warranty contract and service call were cancelled and that I would hear from an accounting specialist on Monday about getting my service charge refunded. I get an email confirming cancellation of my contract although the contract # in the email did not match the number I had. Lo and behold, I am at work on Monday and who shows up at my door? The repairman rings my doorbell and because I have Ring I can see that it is him. I tell him the service call was cancelled and I went with someone else. He then tries to open my door. He says he has the parts now. I told him I cancelled the service call.
I call AHS back to find out why the repairman showed up at my house after I cancelled the service call and my contract on Friday. I referenced the contract number they sent in the cancellation email and they said that wasn't my contract and they see notes about everything that was going on but no cancellation form was filed. I was upset to say the least. I said to go back and listen to your "recorded" service call from Friday where it was confirmed 3 times that the service call was cancelled and the contract was cancelled. The guy on the phone said he could process the cancellation now and could I hold on. I said sure, just cancel everything and refund my service charge since nothing was ever fixed.
Meanwhile while I am on hold I get an email that says "your service call was completed by Dan Gleason" and to take a survey. I told the guy on the phone about it to make sure that the repairman does not get credit for completing the service because he did nothing. He says he made a note. So he supposedly has cancelled the warranty contract and sent my request to accounting to review my request for a refund. He says it will take 3-5 business days to hear back. I'm sure I will be making more phone calls to get my refund. Stay away from AHS. Their contractors are unprofessional and their customer service center is a joke. I guess they figure if they drag things out long enough you will just give up? How this company was rated the best in the industry I cannot understand. If this is the best I can't even imagine how the other ones are.

American Home Shield has sent no less than 8 technicians, over a 3 year period, to, service our AC unit. All but 2 of these companies told us that we needed Freon and charged US accordingly as AHS only covers $10 per pound. The last 2 service techs said that we had a Freon leak. If this was so, why wasn’t it repaired. Most of the technicians were not competent AC repairmen, in my opinion. The unit continues to ice up and, since we live in FL, it may be a very hot summer. We have to hold on the phone, sometimes up to an hour, and no one ever follows up when we request a call back from a supervisor. Between the yearly premium and the $75 service, combines with the hundreds of dollars in Freon, we could have replaced the unit, which AHS refuses to do, despite the multiple service calls.

American Home Shield refuses to replace my refrigerator! Our ice machine has been broken since May 2018. Since the first visit of the repairman, they have had to come out an additional 10 times to try to repair the ice machine. That's a total of 11 TIMES!!! So many parts have been replaced, and in some cases, parts have been replaced multiple times. Yet I still don't have a working ice maker. Since the appliance company keeps on ordering different parts in an attempt to fix it, AHS refuses to say it's not repairable. I've had to take 11 days off since May for them to come and try to fix the fridge. Did I mention 11 TIMES?!? I've called and pleaded, begged, and wept on the phone with the customer reps, and they simply say there is nothing they can do but let the appliance guys keep trying. If you are considering AHS, don't do it. They will make you use all your vacation days in repair visits, and still end up with a broken appliance.

They were supposed to send another company out last Monday, but they did not. It was canceled because somebody called out sick. We had a problem with some backup in a slow-draining sink in our bathroom and there were some water that came back up and brought some debris with it. We thought it might need to be snaked. When Eric, the gentleman from Up To Code Plumbing, came out, he looked at it and was able to analyze it right away. We live in a condo with a condo above us and a condo below us and he said that what it was was coming from a common line for all three condos and it was blowing back into our sink. Our sink was running okay and it was on our drain. He diagnosed that and suggested contacting the condo association because the common line would be their responsibility. I talked to the condo association and they are working on it now.
My overall experience with American Home Shield has been good, thus far. I thought it was something that got clogged, and it would go away. But after several days, it didn't.
I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The reps I worked with were very professional and understanding since I told them I had problems with sitting up since the surgery and I can't bend or twist so they made it convenient for me to get whatever I needed to get and then settle down so that I can get the request put in. The guy from Battle Born Heating & Cooling came out the next day and he said that whoever put in the dishwasher, didn't put in a hole. It didn't make sense to me but he was here for 10 minutes, working on it and it was fixed. All he did was take out one part and attach it to the same spot on the new one. Since the repair, I haven't had any more issues at all.

I've had American Home Shield for several years and I've had reasonably good interactions with them. When I submit a claim, I like to call. I wanna talk to a live person and tell them what my problem is. If I couldn't get through, I would use the web as a backup. My preference though is calling. The customer service reps I worked with were good. Although they had a standardized script, it still beats going on the web. So far, one of the difficulties I’ve had in the past was convincing them for a survey for an air conditioning here in South Texas when it was in the 90s and the 100s, that it was in a quote. It couldn't be routine and somebody would come out in four days. I needed somebody within 24 to 48 hours.
They make a claim and then the contractor will contact you in a day or two. And then when they contact you, they'll tell you that they'll see you the next week. Sometimes, where it’s an emergency and I needed somebody within 24 hours, I might not get an appointment for a week. So speed would be an improvement. In addition, AHS should have companies that do emergency work. They should let them know that they're gonna get called on the last-minute stuff rather than do that to all the contractors. Other than that, I had seen in the newsletter that AHS sent me that they were running specials for the $75 service call. That I'd get a spring cleaning check-up. So I did that and the contractor that came out was excellent. I appreciate the feedback from American Home Shield for setting something up like that.
Good afternoon Kevin,

Everything was handled with a good priority to it and everything that needed to be fixed has been fixed properly.

I went online to Home Shield to put in a request for a service and set up my profile, and that process has been absolutely wonderful. It was so easy, they deducted the $100, and there was no money exchanged between myself and the plumber. So, that was a beautiful experience. The plumber came on a Thursday, and he was very good in the communication that he was on his way. And then when he worked on my bathroom, he said they didn't have a part. They were gonna have to order it and then they'd give me a callback next Thursday to reschedule to come out and install it. The next Thursday came around, but I haven’t heard anything. So, I called them on Friday and the rep said she had a box to go through but she asked me to let her call me back.
She did call me back advising me that the part was still in transit. But then, I had to call them back again on Friday because I haven’t heard anything. She finally sent someone out. So, the follow through with the company like the reconnection could be better. I had to contact them versus them contacting me. But then when they sent a different gentleman to come over, he was absolutely wonderful. He made me feel at home, was very professional, kind of walked through, and was very friendly. I was asking him different plumbing questions because of my sinks and he said, “Let me take a quick look at it.” I really appreciated that versus having to fill another request. And all he did was just unscrew my faucet and looked down. This is the first time that I had a home warranty. My experience was very simple. So, I’m very pleased with it.

We keep having to call them out for it. It's not that they're not fixing the problem, but at what point do we get a new refrigerator? They should have a fact page. Still, working with AHS has been great and we renewed for another year. Their technicians have all been great as well.

The work that he performed met my expectations and I couldn’t have asked for a better response. I have already used the vacuum once and it's great. It’s quiet and actually takes stuff off the floor. American Home Shield is fantastic and I’d recommend them all the time. I’m buying more houses and I will use them on all my houses.

My overall experience with American Home Shield has been the best. They have broader coverage as opposed to any other company. When the garbage disposal wasn’t working, Plumbers Inc. came out. But it was an expensive $100 to have the problem fixed. They could have also come out a lot sooner because I put in a complaint on a Friday and they didn't come out until the following Thursday. But everything has been running okay since the repair. The tech put an Allen wrench underneath the garbage disposal and twisted it back and forth, and he said something in it was jammed. He unjammed it and it worked. The reps were also good when I submitted this claim over the phone.

I have a sporadic problem with my heating system, where it would go on at times when it wasn't supposed to go on per the settings. The people that came were excellent and I can't say anything negative about them. The man explained that he gets a few claims a year about the problem, but sometimes, the problem doesn't occur until 1:00 am, so he said it is very hard to catch it if it was in fact affecting my heating and fan system upstairs in my attic.
I am still getting the sporadic fan that goes on when it is likely not supposed to go on, so I wanna do more troubleshooting before I call it in, but I have to call him instead of restarting it all over with another person because he told me to call him even at any hour if I was getting the problem. He said the only way to troubleshoot it is for him to see it happening when he is here. American Home Shield did the best they could regarding this claim and the gentleman that came was very knowledgeable. He advised to make some small changes in my settings, which I did, but I don't know if I have the problem or not. I don't wanna call again unless I'm positive that I have this problem.
I have had American Home Shield for 18 years overall now and they've generally been good. Sometimes, I've had problems using their telephone automated system because the artificial intelligence system does not work unless I give them back exactly what they state is their list of problems. It is too small, so I could never use it. My only complaint is the attempt to get the telephone system option to work. It has never worked for me because the options that they list are so specific. If I don't say exactly what the prompt is, it will not work or it will send me to a prompt that has nothing to do with my problem. Sometimes, there are nuances to explain what a situation is, where it is not gonna work on the telephone system. My recommendation is to use the internet or speak to a representative if your problem can't be explained with a couple of words, which the telephone system seems to only provide.
Their prices have also gone way up and at this point, I am losing on the protection. It appears as if some of the owners have switched to another company in my area, but I am still loyal. I am just concerned about their enormous price increases since I started with them. The price is worth the value of services they provide, but I will put out a caution flag for how they are pricing all their services.

Did called AHS back. Told them never showed up so the guy told me he was going with another vendor. They would call me in 2 hours to schedule appointment. Well never heard anything so called AHS again on Sunday morning. Got same runaround so I ask to talk to supervisor. Said couldn't find one but would have one call me. Never did.
So I just gave up. Called back to cancel work order and asked to talk to supervisor again and she wanted to to know why. I said I was tired of getting the runaround and that they have no problem taking my payments every month. Then she tried to tell me the credit card I gave was denied which I know it wasn't because I called them and no one had tried to run it so just covering their **. I have used it before and I knew a little bit more about the system, so everything went very well. A local company came to my house but they had to come three times to fully repair so, it took two weeks. During that time, I spent more time outside to have dinner so I don’t have anything to wash which was the most important change in my day-by-day activities in my house. When my dishwasher won't drain and it leaked water, I called in and submitted my claim to American Home Shield. The people on the telephone are always nice and I'm always happy with the guy who comes out. However, I'm rather annoyed with AHS because this is the third time I've had somebody out here. The dishwasher is 11 years old because it's the age of the house.
The first time, they fixed it. And then, it wasn't that much longer after that and it got broken again. And now it’s broken again. They are finally replacing it this time because it can't be fixed. However, they put a band-aid on it instead of replacing it. And I had to keep spending money for somebody to come out when they should have just replaced it the first time. It's frustrating since I'm having to do dishes by hand and I don't enjoy that.
I have been with American Home Shield for a year and a half. I’ve considered canceling it several times. My son and daughter-in-law took AHS out after I did and whenever I was frustrated with it, they said they were gonna cancel it. I did advise them not to cancel because if you have something big, you may regret it. And that’s the reason I keep it because all in all, it’s certainly a good thing, but they have the same frustrations because somebody came to work on their dryer the same day they came to look at my dishwasher, but their dryer is still sitting there broken.

I've submitted a repair request to American Home Shield to address a leak in my dishwasher. They sent a technician from Appliance Tech. He came out and he noted that there was no air gap installed for the dishwasher which was a little strange because I've installed dishwashers before, I've installed air gaps before and as far as I know, there's no reason why not having an air gap would cause the dishwasher to leak. It's really designed to prevent that flow from the garbage disposal into the dishwasher.
The house is in a rental property for us and we have tenants in there. I drove from Fremont where I live out to the property there in Modesto and I installed that air gap. The tenants let me know that the dishwasher was still leaking. I contacted AHS again and asked that someone a little more responsible than the guy from Appliance Tech be sent out. I also asked to have the technician call me before he goes out to the house so I could give him a little background what had already been done and what the results were. The tech from Appliance Pro said he'd take care of it. He called me afterwards and he told me what he did with the dishwasher and that he run it and it was not leaking. I contacted the tenant and they said that there's no more leak.
So it took two different contractors to get the dishwasher issue finally resolved. Nonetheless, I'm happy that the whole process was taken care of and the dishwasher was okay because it's a very nice and expensive dishwasher and I didn’t want to have to see it get replaced. I was just not real happy with Appliance Tech. I read some reviews of Appliance Tech and they have horrible reviews. Two-thirds of their reviews were only 1-star and a lot of the people wished they could give 0.
I brought to the attention of the AHS contractor relations people that they may wanna consider making sure that whoever they contract with has a good reputation and one of the methods of determining a good reputation is on sites where people post real reviews of their experiences with these companies. I felt that they're making money off the service call. But sometimes these contractors charge less on the service fee than AHS charge. I understand that they need to have some fixed fee, and that it's not dependent upon the individual contractor, but maybe they want to be aware that people are looking at reviews and things like the contractor service fee can be found on review websites and that it ends up not looking good for American Home Shield.

The heat pump was all frozen on the outside. I looked at our old manual and it said not to worry if it goes up iced around the outside. The fan was still working and it would click on to the heat the house. It would draw power from our lights, so our lights would dim and then come back on full strings, and it is still doing that. We had almost a $400 bill and we had our Coos-Curry electric department come out, but it had nothing to do with our power connected to the line. The tech said that I should check out the heat pump because it seems like that is where the problem is coming from. We thought it was our power company, but it wasn’t. It was the unit.
I filed the claim with American Home Shield and it took them no more than two or three days to have someone to come out to repair. It was really fast. We were told that they would come out the following week, but we got the phone call back and they said they have somebody in my area and they could have them come out, so I said yes. The tech came out, but he had had to come back because the heating strips needed to be put on inside the unit itself. He came back the following week and installed a new panel.
It still seems to draw the power from our lights and it makes a weird noise. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it is kinda scary for me. Our bill went from $150 to almost $400 and the guy who came out from our electric company said that he would check with our heat pump and our air-conditioner because it could be just it needs something there. The only thing is sometimes, it is around 45 minutes on the phone with American Home Shield just being on hold and it doesn’t matter what time I call. And sometimes, I’d get somebody on the phone that has an accent and it is very difficult to understand, so I have to ask them to speak slowly. That usually resolves the problem, but it is a little frustrating. Nonetheless, I have been telling everybody that I know that has a house that they should get American Home Shield.

American Home Shield’s website is very user-friendly. I went to their website to submit a claim when the upper rack of the dishwasher kept falling down. It seemed like some support piece of plastic on each side was defective or broken. If we tried to use the top rack of the dishwasher, we were always worried that it would fall down and the glasses would get broken. So, we either didn’t use it or we had to press on both sides and kept our fingers crossed. Then, an AHS rep called within 24 hours as the website said they would and I was told exactly when the contractor would come out and the day that they were scheduled to come out. The contractors called me and gave me within an hour when they would be coming.
When they arrived, they were immaculately dressed and were completely professional. Our interaction with them could not be better. They were very interested in the problem and were able to diagnose it immediately. Then, they gave me an expectation of when it would be repaired because it was a part that had to be ordered. They told me if it was in the local parts for Whirlpool and when they would come back. Also, if they had to order it from a more distant parts depot, they will let me know when they would come back. They were so on the ball. When the parts came in, they called me and told me, and then they set up the time for them to come and install it.
They came exactly on time and knew exactly how to install it because Whirlpool got rid of the plastic and replaced it with metal. They worked silently. I could tell they’ve done this many times before and when they tested it, and they said that if I have any other problems with it, I can get back to them. Now, we can use the dishwasher normally. It has been terrific when you have an appliance that just works, does its job and you don’t have to baby it or worry about it. My experience with American Home Shield had been great from the time I posted the request for service and onwards. We got an error message on the door lights of the refrigerator. And then, the freezer would not stay cold and the refrigerator would freeze items that were in the crisper drawers. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. The interaction with the rep was great. I was told when the vendor would be contacting me. I was also given an expectation that I'd get a call within 24 hours and that happened.
The first company came out about two or three different times. The first time the guy came out, he told me to unplug the refrigerator and let it defrost because there might be some ice crystals on the fan. The second time, he blew off the back of the refrigerator dusting stuff. So I don’t know what happened. But Allegiant came out and the tech ordered some parts, walked me through everything, and it was a good experience. I’ve had no issues since. After the repair, the refrigerator has been great. Everything went really well and it was a little more than what was expected from my past experiences. I would tell others that they definitely gotta have American Home Shield.
Good morning Mark,
Thank you for sharing such thorough feedback regarding your most recent experience. We are pleased to hear that the refrigerator was repaired.

The recent claim that I filed with American Home Shield was for our refrigerator that stopped working. The light came on, but it was the switch on the compressor. I filed the claim online and the tech called and told me what to try to do -- to unplug the refrigerator and plug it back -- but it didn’t work. He came after that, but I had lost some of my food in my refrigerator. I opened it and everything was melted, and it has been registering 65 degrees since then. He told me to unplug it and leave it unplugged for half an hour or so, then plug it back in and maybe, it can fix itself, but it didn’t work.
He had everything he needed when he came out and he fixed it, and everything has been fine. I totally recommend American Home Shield. I told my neighbor that I've had it since around 2002 and I really appreciate having it. Any woman who lives alone, unless she is a mechanic, should have one. It doesn’t solve all your problems, but it sure makes a difference. I love American Home Shield.

I filed a claim with AHS online and their website was super easy to navigate. The people at AHS set me up with the rekey place, and the technician who came out was awesome. He came in and it took him 15 minutes to rekey my doors, and then all was good to go. He was awesome and everything went great.

We had a leak in our bathroom upstairs that was coming through the light fixture downstairs. I submitted a claim online and it was very easy navigating American Home Shield's website. We didn’t know if it was gonna be an emergency or not, but determined that it was not and we were able to use the app. When I call in, I’m dissatisfied because the wait time is so long. Even so, for this claim, the techs came out and took care of the leak and fixed it. We’ve been very happy with everybody that we’ve used.

On a Saturday, I noticed that my pool pump tries to kick on but it did not come on at all. I requested service on my pool pump with American Home Shield. The gentleman from Miller Pools came to the house. He called me on his way and I let him know that I’m not available to go to whatever he needs to do. They did call me before to schedule the appointment though and let me know that they’re coming on the following day. When the guy came into the house, he did the work. And then after he got done with the work, he told me it was done and the pool pump is running, and it’s been running great since. It turned out that the pump itself was not broken. There was a transistor or some component in the pump itself that burnt out and malfunctioned. So, he replaced that piece, and he was here for less than an hour.
I built my home warranty with American Home Shield a la carte. I got to pick exactly what item I wanted. I wanted to make sure I include my pool, and I just wanted to verify that the pool pump itself was covered. And when I went through the site for my claim, it showed me that my pool was covered. So, while I was still on the site reviewing my contract, I selected the pool pump from the dropdown and I said, "Service" and paid the hundred and twenty-five bucks. And then the guy was at my house on Tuesday afternoon.
I also filed a claim with them in December. We have two heaters in the house and one of them malfunctioned, and it was pretty cold. I called them because it was more of an emergency. And the gentleman was able to come out the next morning. They had told me somebody’s available later. I insisted that I needed somebody to come right away. The person came out early in the morning, and he ran upstairs. I had something malfunctioning. The gentleman was able to identify it quickly, replaced it, and the heat was back on. And he even helped set up my Nest thermostat. I had it connected and it wasn’t working because of that malfunction in the heater. He went downstairs, and he showed me how to do it. And he set it up for me too on the site as an extra thing. So, that was really nice of him. It was excellent customer service. He went above and beyond.
American Home Shield got recommended to me by a friend. And so far, it’s been fantastic. From the moment that they allowed me to build my policy a la carte, add the things that are important to me like my pool plumbing, my pool pump, all the way down to being able to cover ceiling fans inside the house, to the service and the turnaround time, they were top-notch. I will renew with them next year as well.

Almost a month later, my fridge is still not working, and they still insist that *THE SAME* contractor come out for a fourth time to try to repair my fridge. Water pressure issue if too high then contract is not in effect. Water heater failed...water pressure issue not covered. Toilet failed ...water pressure issue not covered. You get the idea.
Even if you have a water regular install (mine is set to 45 psi) and it is not set correctly... Nothing water touches can and will not be covered... not covered due to water pressure is a get out honoring a contract if the repairs are too high for AHS. And the testing of water pressure is open to any standards the contractor or AHS wishes to accept. And if a repair has a vent or hose or gas line that is not a cost they cover, you are stuck with the contractor who is approved to do the repair to change anything they wish...
Example water supply line at hardware store under ten dollars, add 12% a high standard for parts mark up and that is reasonable. AHS contractor requires 95 dollars for same part or will not do the work...because they the contractor is losing money on your install... now if your repair contract price does not include reasonable parts..hose, vent, clamp etc. you pay outrageous "costs" So please be aware of this "way to do business." End result is they bill me for the monthly, the service call did not fix anything so no water heater (this has been going on now for weeks).

I was given a timeframe as to when to expect the contractor but it was over the weekend so, it was a gray area. I put in the claim on a Saturday. I called the tech service on Monday and then, they came out the next day. The tech was professional. He walked in, he went immediately to the fridge, looked at it and started troubleshooting from there. Since the repair, the refrigerator has been working and I don’t have to live out of coolers anymore. Having AHS is very valuable because I didn’t have to pay a $1,000 repair bill for my refrigerator.

American Home Shield has fixed everything that we've called about but we went through a hassle to get it. It takes me forever to get anything done and that's with all my claims. It's not so much American Home Shield but getting the stuff ordered. Home Shield would order the stuff and there is a lot of delays. I've got a microwave issue that they've been out for for four times.
The contractors are nice but I don't get anything done. A guy came out once and looked at my microwave and said, "Yeah." He wrote something down on a book and then left. He didn't even look at that stupid thing. He didn't open the door or examine it. But he was just a kid. When a professional guy came out, he looked at it and said it was a safety issue and that it was broken. I was getting a new microwave and I finally got something done. But when they delivered the microwave, it was damaged. They had to order another one and now, they're trying to deliver it. They called on the phone and, on the answering machine, they said they would be there in 20 minutes. But I was not even there. I was in Dallas. So how could I be there for them to deliver the microwave? They never talked to anybody and they did that twice. You can't do business that way though. You need to talk to somebody.
If you have an emergency, Home Shield is really bad. When you have water running and you have an emergency, they're bad. It's hard having to call and call them. I had a plumbing issue and I just finally got it resolved. The plumber who came out here was a super nice guy. But the part was ordered wrong for three times and he had to come out about five times to fix the leak in my hot shower.
I was also out of heat for a month during the middle of the winter and I sat for months, waiting for parts. And we're elderly now. We don't need to do that. We would go get a hotel room just to keep warm but that's ridiculous. I could have gone down to the local store, bought my part and had it put in in a day or overnight. But I guess American Home Shield was trying to order the cheapest part. I don't know what they're doing. I talked to the technicians and they're waiting on Home Shield to go order the part.
I was a technician myself and that's what aggravates me with their stuff. I know it doesn't take this long to get parts. I even offered to pay the overnighting on my heater. It's all on the technician too. They should be allowed to order their parts and not Home Shield. Home Shield is too slow. Another thing is that American Home Home Shield doesn't leave their ratings on the computer long enough for you to rate on it. Sometimes, we would be gone and when we would come back in a couple days, we would go to rate somebody but the time had expired on it.
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

My ice maker was not making any ice. While with my wash machine, I heard what sounded like a small jet plane engine getting ready to take off, and I thought that that was not right. I wanted to get the appliances checked sooner than later. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my ice maker and washing machine. The claim was submitted via my app wherein navigating through their website was super easy. The rep at AHS gave me a two-hour window of when to expect a contractor. And then when the contractor was on his way, the AHS rep sent me a text saying that the contractor was on his way.
The repair company was great to work with. The contractor explained everything to me very well. He had to order an ice maker, and AHS hasn’t decided what they’re doing with the ice maker yet. So, I’m still buying bagged ice, which is fine. And then my washing machine is being replaced by AHS. I should get it on Tuesday. Everything went well. I had two claims with American Home Shield. The first one was with the garbage disposal and the technician did excellent work. He came to a conclusion that the garbage disposal needed to be replaced and he replaced it. I was very satisfied with what he did. But, I was not happy with the second company that came out. He made promises that he couldn’t fulfill. I received a call from American Home yesterday and I asked them to put them on ‘Do not return’ list. When I a problem with the ceiling fan, he said it was a remote control because it controlled everything. He told me that would be replaced with no problem but I come to find out the remote control is not covered.
I also had a problem with an outlet that wasn’t working. It was hooked up to the main wire in the attic. He said that whoever did it should have put a junction box and ran it from the junction box. He said that shouldn’t be a problem. When they called yesterday, they said that was a problem and they don’t do that. The third item was the doorbell and the contractor assumed that there was no wire. He didn’t check, so he didn’t know if there was a wire or not. They said that if the wire was not there, they don’t cover it. But if he pulled the original doorbell, I’m quite sure he would have seen there was a wire behind that.
I was on the verge of canceling the contract but I understand that sometimes things do not go the way I want. I will probably keep AHS but in the meantime, I have been looking at other home warranties because I notice American Shield doesn’t offer any kinda roof repair that I may need in the near future. I checked a couple of other places and they offer roof repair and the price is a little cheaper too. The only problem I had with AHS is the company that came out to represent them which didn’t represent them correctly. Despite that, I have already recommended AHS to three people.

He took care of the problem and I like the fact that he tested everything before he left to ensure that there would be no problems. When I bought the house, the seller paid for a year warranty with American Home Shield. I used to have OneGuard in my house in Houston and one of the services of OneGuard was when one buys a new house, they would come and change all the locks on the door as a security measure and it makes perfect sense to me. So, I called American Home Shield and told them I needed to get the locks changed. I asked if that is something they do and they said yes. I said, “Well, at OneGuard, it was free at a one-time deal. Is it the same thing with you?” I held on for about five minutes and the rep came back and said, "Oh, yes, ma'am. There's no service fee for this. No charge for that." I said, "Okay cool. That's what I wanna know. Thank you." Then, the rep said that I needed to go online and schedule it.
When I went online to schedule the change of locks, there was a prompt asking me to pay a $75 fee so I picked up the phone and called back American Home Shield again. A girl rep answered the phone and I repeated my story. She said, "Oh, no ma'am. There's always a fee. We don't do anything with no service charge on it." I said that it was horrible customer service for one to tell me one thing, then for her to get on the phone to tell me something else. It was unacceptable. She said, "Well, I'm sorry ma'am. He just told you wrong. He didn't know what he was talking about." I said that it should be a learning opportunity because everybody should know what their company charges before they tell a client on the telephone. I was very pissed off about that.
In another experience, a guy came out and repaired the microwave for me a couple of days ago. I put the claim online and I didn't have any issue, but I didn't like their website. It was a bit convoluted. I was at work so I didn't have a whole lot of time to reach them for the details as I got an appointment, but I was frustrated with it. But when I got through it, it was fine. The contractor sent out was very pleasant and he was there for a couple of hours trying to fix the microwave. It was repaired, so all was good.

It was understandable since they were closed but it was quick.
The AC came with the house the we bought and it was dented. When it was given to us, it looked like a window unit fell on it. Last summer, it went out for a week and we filed a claim and then, it went back on. So, we wanted to get it checked out. I’m glad I filed the claim but it was a waste because the technician said there wasn’t much to be done. I wished he would’ve said they could replace it. However, they can’t replace it and have the warranty cover it if it’s still working to some extent. It might not make it through this summer so, we’ll see. I’m gonna renew AHS because I feel like it’s bad enough. We were told that the freezer is not included in our appliances for the protection though, and we had assumed that if it was an appliance, it can be fixed or replaced. So that’s the only issues that we have. But everything else is okay.
Our freezer wasn’t working one time. I happened to go out and get something out. That was when I noticed the light wasn’t on then I touched something. We thought it was the freezer but my husband checked with another plug-in for the freezer and it worked so that was out. This man who came out was James and he was really good. He came on time and fixed out problem. He knew what he was doing and it didn’t take him very long to do it. It took almost an hour and he was really nice about it. The breaker box is over on the opposite side of the garage and there was also a plug-in we didn’t know we had. There was something with the breaker box so he fixed it and the plug over there on the other side didn’t work either. So he did all that at one time for us.
Patricia,
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved regarding the Freezer. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

AHS sent a contractor to repair my HVAC. The contractor tried to charge me over $1000 in bogus fees for fictitious “code upgrades”. The contractor had over 85 negative reviews on BBB; many for the same thing. A second contractor confirmed the upcharges were bogus. AHS confirmed the loss was covered. AHS still tried to force me to use the first contractor stating the bogus charges “were not their problem as they aren’t covered anyway”. AHS then tried to settle the claim cash in lieu for 1/4 the cost of repair. I had to call them no less than 10 times. They never once returned a call or followed up.
Each call forced us to start over from the beginning with no progress. They didn’t appear to care about the situation, refused to listen and never honored the contract. We’re still trying to get them to reimburse the actual repair cost. I can’t recommend them under any condition. I would recommend you save your money as you’ll be left in the cold by AHS when you submit any kind of real claim.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We received American Home Shield as part of our closing package when we purchased the house. I put in a service request to American Home Shield on January 5, 2019, today is April 6, 2019. My refrigerator is still not fixed. The appliance repair company sent out a service technician on 4 or 5 different occasions to repair our refrigerator. The fridge continues to leak water into the bottom tray and water continues to freeze under the bottom tray.
The first appliance company's technician cleaned out the drain, replaced the filter assembly, put in new valve and water lines, and replaced the fresh food fan assembly. The problem persisted. The technician stated it is an internal problem that Cant be repaired but asked for a second opinion, just in case. The first company did everything they knew to do. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. The second appliance company sent a technician who came out, checked everything and then some and stated there was really nothing else they could do.
American Home Shield refused to pay for a new fridge because the company stated it could not repaired due to a manufactures defect. It is not. There is no defect listed for this fridge nor is there a recall. Now they want to send out another technician and they stated they will not be replacing it because it freezes and cools and there is no reason to replace it.
I have to take make special work arrangements every time a technician comes to our house. Up to this point, I have been very patient. This is no longer the case. I am extremely upset and dissatisfied with American Home Shield. What do I do? What is the recommended course of action at this point? I will not recommend AHS to anyone.

I have used AHS for 20 years and just canceled my contract. I have always had good service. This week my sump pump went south. I was notified that after seeing that my case was closed w/o a response from AHS that because my air conditioning drains into my sump pump the warranty is void. The contract states (Ground Water Only), but there is no way that I would have known this prior to calling them. The builder of my 8-year-old home designed the water to drain this way. The plumber that visited told me that some plans intentionally word the contract this way to avoid having to pay for repairs. DISAPPOINTING! I have canceled my plan and will review the fine print on CHOICE HOME WARRANTY which I believe will cover my sump pump.

I spoke to a gentleman named Peter on my last call and he was extremely rude and condescending after he couldn’t give me a reasonable answer for the huge price increase... He was not even knowledgeable about the policy. Maybe it was just a random call center that handles AHS customer service. I’ve recommended the company to many of my clients but I’m extremely hesitant to do so after this experience!!!

So, I had an issue and called in to speak with someone. I was not given direct answers and the CS rep was on the verge of being rude. So, I asked to speak with a supervisor. The rep I was speaking with asked me several questions as to why I wanted to speak with a manager. After getting nowhere and insisting to speak with a manager, she hung up on me. I called back and was given the run-around for 51 minutes before I hung up; again, them not allowing me to speak with a supervisor. This was clearly them not wanting me to speak with a supervisor (or manager). This avoidance and unwillingness to help out is the worst thing any company can do relative to a customer experience. I will need to think long and hard before I renew another year with these people.

My heater pilot light kept blowing out. The final conclusion was that the furnace needed to be replaced. I elected to go with my own contractor as he was the person who installed the previous furnace and my AC and he has complete knowledge of both of my systems since I have been in the home for over 34 years. Subsequently, the furnace was replaced and all repairs done. I submitted the invoice and was informed after several days, via email, that "We received your documentation regarding your furnace. However, we are unable to accept this as proof of replacement for the furnace at the above-referenced property." "Per our records, we need to receive need paid in full invoice showing purchase of new furnace that has at least 1-year manufacturer warranty and company information on invoice."
That was the direct quote on the email as written, and then the email said, "Please do not respond to this email - it is used for distribution purposes only." Now someone's name was on the email. No phone number to call was on the email. So this left me contacting customer service. Those people in customer service do not seem to know how to transfer you to the correct department. The customer service rep placed me on hold to find out where to transfer me, and then came back stating that she could not transfer me to that department or provide me with a contact phone number. When I informed her that I called on yesterday evening after 5 p.m. and that person was able to transfer me, then she put me on hold for another 10 minutes and then transferred me to another department.
I spoke to Sarah and informed her that I needed to speak to someone in the Inspection Service Department to find out exactly what documents were needed so that I will not be submitting documents, and receiving emails telling me that was not what they needed. Sarah stated that they are unable to transfer calls or contact that department. She suggested that I reply to the email sent. When I informed her that the email specifically stated to not reply, she then tells me to just resubmit the documents. Mind you I informed her that I did resubmit the invoice along with receipts for the furnace and copy of a warranty paper before she told me to resubmit. I told Sarah that my concern was that I would submit documents that would not be what was needed.
I also informed her that the person who replaced my furnace was also the same person who repaired my AC which American Home Shield accepted that invoice and reimbursed me for the repairs due to the buyout replacement terms. I asked Sarah could she please have that department contact me via phone so that I can verbally speak to someone so that I can clear up what documents were needed. Sarah became upset because I was letting her know that she kept repeating information that I already informed her was completed, and all I needed was to speak to someone who could handle my concerns. It is apparent to me that AHS needs to better train the employees that handles the calls.
Also, AHS needs to make sure that anyone who is sending out email communications to their clients, should also provide contact email address and direct phone numbers so that customers do not have to contact several different people who seem to be uninformed. I also asked Sarah for the corporate office info, and she told me to go to the website. Of course, I was unable to find the corporate office info on the website. I wish to get this matter resolved. AHS needs to take better care of their customers. It seems that professionalism is not important. I would be more than willing to speak to someone.

I had an issue when I was running my dishwasher. There was a leak. There was water coming out of the side of my house. So, I called American Home Shield for a plumber, and the plumber came out and said he couldn't remove the dishwasher 'cause they didn't touch dishwashers. In order to identify where the leak was coming from, I have to get an appliance tech out. I had to call and create a second work order to get the appliance tech, Affordable Services, to come out to look at the dishwasher and to pull it out and see if they could find the leak. They didn't find the leak, but they did the repair. And Affordable Services was very polite, professional, on time and great. What was frustrating though was that instead of being able to use one service order for that, I've had to pay two fees because they have such strict categories of the types of people that work for them.
Submitting claims to American Home Shield is really easy to do online. If I ever have any issues, I will call, and I get a rep. From the time I submitted the claim, I am usually contacted within 24 hours. It is pretty quick to get a contractor to my home. It just depends on my availability and theirs. Over the years, I've had one or two issues with getting people out in a timely manner. I probably called them eight or nine times 'cause I was a first-time homeowner and didn't understand things like you just push that button under your disposal to get it to work again. American Home Shield has been a great value. Since I don't know much about appliances, having them has been really helpful.

The service contractor, A-US Air Conditioning of Texas, came out recently and assessed what was wrong, and they determined it was the compressor. They communicated this with me on the same day while I was at work. They told me that they were gonna be sending the recommendation to American Home Shield. Then AHS would approve or deny their assessment. AHS approved it. Then the contractor contacted me to schedule an appointment the next day. I set the appointment two days later. They promptly showed up on time and they replaced the compressor. They determined the issue on a Friday and I had the part installed on Monday. I’ve only had one other claim with AHS and it had to with the refrigerator. I paid the $100 deductible and everything went fine. Generally, the technicians have been efficient in time and AHS has been pretty good about the coverage.

Finally, I got to an agent. AHS need to get rid of that robot and have real people on the phone. I called on a Friday and the AHS agent didn’t think my leak was important. The vendor didn’t come out till Tuesday and I wasn’t happy about that because when you have a leak, it can get bigger. So, I have to wait three or four days before they finally came out. Submitting claims online to American Home Shield tend to be easier. I used online to get the phone number to call a claim person because when I’m filing a claim, I’d rather talk to somebody. When the reps from US Air of Texas got here, I told them what was going on and all they did was walk in, confirm it and write it up. As things stand now with AHS, the experience is terrible. They want me to spend over two grand out of my pocket to bandage a 20-year-old system that they wanna pay $1,000 to replace an air handler for. For the size of the home I have, whatever they’re gonna pay for, for under a grand, that’s their labor. It’s not gonna be anything I want. So, I’m doing the buy-out option. I'm having my full system replaced because it should be, being a 20-year-old system.

That made me upset me because I didn't realize I was gonna pay two service calls for that. I don't see why I had to pay for two service calls when the first one was to determine what was going on. I don't know why it couldn't go ahead and be done at that time. But other than that, the AHS reps were very helpful. Also, the techs got right to work and they were friendly. I called American Home Shield two weeks ago as I was having issues with my garbage disposal and with the touch faucet in my kitchen. Someone was dispatched and they told me first that it would take a week to get someone here. I could not wait a week without a kitchen sink so they came up with something for Thursday last week. AHS dispatched Sundance and the technician came out and cleared up the disposal issue. When the tech came out for the sink, he called American Home Shield and told them they needed to send someone for appliances because he thought that in doing the garbage disposal, it works together with the dishwasher. So, they came out, but they didn’t find anything wrong with it.
Moreover, the touch faucet required a part where he could figure out. It is a Delta faucet so he got in touch with Delta because they were supposed to be warranties on the parts. The technician was terrific and he gave me his cellphone number. He knew how long I was waiting and he asked Delta to overnight the part and that if the part came in and he was in the area, he would swing by and do it even if he didn’t have to call to get it done right away. By Monday, I thought to call and find out if they sent the part out overnight or when will I be expecting it. Delta told me they did not have an order for a part. They said they had requested some photos, which the tech took photos and he sent them over to them from here.
But for some reason, they did not receive them. So, he resent them on Monday and then got a message somehow that Delta was not going to put this part under warranty. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that they needed to get back with them, have their parts department order the part just because if they weren’t going to supply the part, it doesn’t mean that American Home Shield is not going to. They said on Monday that they were gonna call me back but I did not hear from them.
I called them on Tuesday and told them that I didn’t hear back and that I had spoken to their tech and he said that he was going to try and get American Home Shield to forget about Delta, but just get the part and put it in because he knew how inconvenient it was not to have my kitchen sink. Come Wednesday, I still did not hear back. I also told them that the dishwasher was making a grinding noise and there was also some debris inside of it. I told them too that I needed to have the other company come out. So far, I’ve been trying to speak to the people from AHS about the service people that they sent here and how it was handled.
I sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Some other company had come by and done some cleaning on our AC unit and they told us that there was a whole bunch of stuff wrong with it. We filed a claim with AHS and the contractor, Comfort Heating and AC, came out and checked our unit. the service man found a couple of errors, such as burnt wires. They called me when the service man found what was what with the unit, then he let me know what they were fixing and I’m satisfied. It cooled and worked fine that day. But then we had a cold spell come in the next day, so we switched it off. We ended up with the temperature going from up in the 70s to about 34.
I only had one challenge in my experience with AHS. If I ever have to have a plumbing company again, I will not allow AHS to use one contractor because the last time that we had them out, I ended up paying close to $1,000 of my own money in getting some repairs done that they refused to do anything with. But other than that, I have not had any problem whatsoever with AHS. At one time, they had to replace a dishwasher. They also had to replace a range and something else. So, I’m totally satisfied.
