Having a warranty is very valuable. It's for peace of mind. When my microwave was making a lot of noise, I submitted a claims for it online and navigating through the American Home Shield website was good. I was to expect the contractor out in a week or two. When they came, they were very good. They figured out that our microwave needed a new motor. They had to order a part, and the wrong part came in. Then they had to reorder another part. They called me, but I don’t have their phone number anymore. I haven’t had a chance to call and I still haven’t had the microwave installed. Having a warranty is very valuable. It's for peace of mind. I had 2 things repaired through 2 claims recently and both of them were very good.

The AC stopped getting cool. I could still hear that it was on, but it was not cooling. I told my husband and I went outside because that is where the unit is at and I noticed that the fan wasn't going. Even though it was on in the house, the fan wasn't going outside, so my husband called American Home Shield to have somebody come out. My husband had called Moore Air LLC when he hung up with AHS and he left a voicemail. I followed up with the tech again the next day and he answered and was able to come out within the next couple of hours. They fixed the AC really quickly. They were really awesome and very nice. They showed up within the timeframe that they told me that they were, which was nice. It is summer here in Arizona, so I wasn't expecting them to be able to come out so quickly, but he said, "Does this time work for you?" He gave me a timeframe and he was out within the timeframe.
They were very friendly and I appreciated the fact that they were really trustworthy. I am a woman and I was at home by myself, so it always can be a scary thing when you have strangers in your house, but I didn't feel odd at all. I felt very comfortable. The tech told me what was going on and, right off the bat, he said that I probably had a loose wire. Again, they were here around 10 minutes tops and he was able to fix that. Even once they fixed it, they still stayed and checked the air pressure and they said they could already see it was cooling down, which I could feel instantly. They had me sign some papers after they checked everything. It was really great. The AC is still running really good so far and hopefully, it stays that way.

We've had American Home Shield going on 2 years now and I recommend them to my friends. I call them over the phone to submit claims and they're good. I also haven’t had any issues with any of the contractors. We had a GFI that went out, and they sent City First Electric out to replace it.

When I had a claim with American Home Shield for my garbage disposal, I was told that somebody would be out the next day. Then the service was way better than I expected. The guy from ASAP Plumbing was in and out in five minutes. He also showed me what I could do next time to fix it myself, before I would even have to call anyone and spend the $75. Everything’s working normal since the repair and nothing has been broken down anymore. I normally submit claims with AHS online and their website is user-friendly. I’ve had a few claims already and everything has been really smooth and easy. I’ve never had any problems and I've never had to stress about having to call the home warranty.

My most recent claim with AHS was a nightmare. My heat wasn't working and I called AHS and they gave me a name of a company that they would put me in touch with and vice-versa. I would always wanna check out who I'm letting in my home. I am a widow, alone so I'm not just letting a stranger in. When I checked out this company, they did not have good reviews. I called American Home Shield back and asked them for another company name. They gave me another company name whose reviews were worse than the first. Then they sent the third one out, who only had a couple reviews but at least they were favorable. So, I gave them a try. American Comfort Builder's sent out a gentleman to check things out.
The tech that came out was very personable but it became quickly apparent to me, somebody didn't know what they were really doing. They left with the job not being done. Then they didn't come back. They stood me up a couple times. Then we were gonna have the lead tech come out. I had to be pro-active all the way by calling American Comfort Builder's, "Okay, you said between 3:00 and 5:00. I know it's 4 o'clock, we still have some time. But I just wanna make sure I didn't get dropped again. So unless I called it's not like they kept me abreast of things after their first tech blew it.
And then 5 o'clock came and went and I was not calling them back. I was not hearing from them and was freezing now. So, I knew their office closed by 6:00, but I was still waiting. I couldn't even live in my house. It was 40 to 44 degrees inside. When I called about two minutes before 6:00, I said, "Your guy didn't show up, I'm not speaking with you guys any more. I'm strictly gonna deal with American Home Shield 'cause after all, I am their customer." I'm at my friends now, finally getting some dinner and warmed up. And at 7:11 PM, there's a call from a number that's not known to me. I didn't answer it because I was still upset about them not coming at all and I'm sitting in this freezing house.
So, consequently, it ended up being a voice message and when I listened to it later that evening, it was American Comfort Builder's guy -- very nice. But you know what, talk is cheap and when you talk the talk but you're not walking the walk, that's just doesn't bode well. I understand, in order to be in business, they're paying a certain amount like AAA does for their tow drivers. But when they pay peanuts, they are gonna get monkeys. My guy didn't even go to MacGyver's school of fix-it. Had that been my first experience with anything with American Home Shield, I would have been saying, "What the heck?" But I had had two minor plumbing problems when I moved into this condo, and the plumber that came out was great, knowledgeable and fixed the job.
Then, here's my other issue with the whole issue. I called American Home Shield right away, talked to customer service to say, "Hey, now this is what's happened. I tried to do it your way,." I called them before I tried this American Comfort Builder's the second time. I know I got to call to ask if I could call my own guy that I had 13 plus years at my old house that knows what he's doing." I gave them another chance and then customer service, "Okay, call and let us know how everything's going." So, I call, I get a different person. I told my story to five different people and all I kept doing is getting bounced around unto the Filipino outsourcing.
I'm not being a hater or anything. I have a Filipino daughter and Filipino grandchildren. It was just that I said then, at the last two conversations, "I want the United States and I want a manager." Once again, I get a couple ladies and then at one point, "Well, the company said you cancelled on them." "No," I said. I wasn't gonna deal with them anymore. I was only gonna deal with them because they're getting the money for the policy. They're sending me monkeys out here to do the work or nobody comes. And that's when we worked for the negotiation. I had my guy replaced the unit. I needed to live in my home. Whether American Home Shield was gonna help me or not at that point, I needed to take care of the immediate, which I did.
In the end, American Home Shield came through, and I was very glad. But from now on if I have a problem, I'm not calling their customer service because I'm being a bounced around from country to country, and being made felt like I'm the bad guy. I'm gonna go through June or someone like the folks that helped me at the end because that was flipping ridiculous.
Good morning Susan,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated regarding your most recent service experience.

Something was going on where the furnace wouldn’t kick on half the time. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the process was easy. I turned my claim in on a Friday and the contractor came out the following Monday. It was quick. Their contractor said my filter was bad. Apparently, they didn’t carry the filters of the furnace that I have. Nevertheless, the contractor explained how to replace it and then left. So, I had to go buy a new filter and put it myself. So far, I haven’t turned it back on. I’m assuming that it’s gonna work fine.

We had a problem with our water heater. The tech that American Home Shield contacted came and had to order some parts, came back and fixed it. There was a leak and he made sure to fix that. And then we had another little problem with it, but he came back to fix that. It wasn't any fault of his. It had to do with the seal of the water heater. He was prompt in getting here and getting our water heater fixed for us, considering we had a house full of company coming. We have a couple of friends in the neighborhood that have been using AHS. Yesterday, one of them had a problem with their dishwasher but they were leaving the home. The tech was there first thing in the morning that they asked him if he could come before their flight, and he got it fixed. They were quite happy.

American Home Shield is worth having. Call them and they'll come around and help you with your problem. My personal experience went really well and I will recommend them. It was very professional. I had a technician from ATR Heating & Cooling come out and service my AC unit. The water had been backing up in the PC line and he unclogged that. Filing that claim went really smoothly too. I called it in to American Home Shield and they were very professional. They came back and forth on what they should do. Then my claim was estimated. On top of that, the technician was also very polite and professional. He came out and took care of the issue within the timeframe, and the AC unit is working properly now.

Generally, American Home Shield has been responsive. After filing the claim, the technician came out in about two days. He has been great and very helpful. But the microwave was so old that they had to get a replacement. I was on the phone for five hours. I had to call the manufacturer, get information and see if it was fixed. Then, they sent out the installer but he wasn't able to install it 'cause it was not the right microwave and it didn't have the right filler kit over the stove.
I called them back again because I sent them pictures and gave them all my measurements for the space. It was their responsibility. They said that I have to pay $100 restocking fee. I haven't contested it with them yet, but I need to call them back and say that I don't wanna pay the fee because they gave me a microwave that doesn't fit in my space. Hopefully, when I get a microwave that works, the service tech who tried to fix my microwave originally would be able to come back out 'cause their company had good ratings and he was fine.

As of right now, we know that the vent was compacted, so we’re cleaning the vent out and then resolving that issue before we reinstall the dryer. I'm so in love with American Home Shield. They made things so easy. We just bought a new home and had it re-keyed. At first, I didn't know AHS does that, but when I received the email with an offer, I thought, "Yes. Perfect." Submitting the claim was very easy. I did it online, then, they called and set the appointment up. Michael came out. He was absolutely amazing, very helpful and went out of his way for us. He's like family now. We had four keys for different locks to the house. Besides what AHS offered, I had him do the others at our expense. He re-keyed the entire house with one key, which is very convenient for my 88-year-old mother.

Just last night, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the refrigerator and dishwasher. The ice maker was broken, the refrigerator was leaking water, and then the dishwasher is not working properly. Submitting the claim online was easy. Using their website was very simple. Everybody that American Home Shield sent out has been awesome. The AHS contractors will be in touch with me in 24 hours, and then usually, I coordinate with them, and they usually come out within a day or two, depending on the severity of the issue. I've never really had any problems.
I haven't had a problem right away when the contractors leave. However, three or four months down the road, the same issue pops up again. Normally, whoever comes out will usually give me about two months. Usually, when what was repaired breaks again for the same issue, I gotta open it up with American Home Shield through another case. The issue that I'm having right now happened last September, and I brought it up to them and said, "Hey, this is the fourth time this has happened." And they said, "No problem. Our guy will take care of it." They took care of it. About two months later, it broke again. That company came out on their own, replaced the entire unit, and it went bad again just now. So, it will be the seventh call I'd have had on this.
So far, AHS has greatly improved. When we had them initially when we first bought our house, I didn't like them one bit. It was very difficult to get anything done. But they have made a complete 180 on their website and the calls. When I call in, somebody answers within five minutes. There used to be a one hour wait time to call in. It's been great. They have improved over the years. I almost left them and went with Sears, but they gave me a discounted rate for the second year which was really crazy cheap. No one else could come close. And some manager called me and was like, "Hey, we're in a process of changing things around. I promise it's gonna get better." I took his word for it, and they did. I was really surprised. I recommend American Home Shield and I've recommended them already. I'm a Realtor, and when I work with folks, I usually give them three or four home warranty companies, and American Shield is always one of them.

I needed to have my refrigerator repaired. I filed a claim with AHS and within 24 hours, they got someone scheduled to come out. The first tech was a gentleman and he didn’t even wanna work with me. So, I called Home Shield and they sent me over another tech in a couple of days. The other tech that came in was from Appliance 911 and he was professional and courteous. Unfortunately, he couldn't work on a GE equipment software. So, he did whatever he could then Home Shield sent me a GE tech to update the software. Apparently, I had a software that GE didn’t give to a third vendor and they had to be the ones that installed it in their appliances. After three weeks, everything was well.
I have AHS for numerous years now. I got them through the military and I had them when I was in Washington as well as in Colorado. I've had great service from them and that was why I went back to them when I got here in San Antonio. They do awesome service as long as they send the right tech. I've been doing this and that to save some money and when AHS sends the person that are trained on certain equipment or appliances, it makes life easier. It might cost a dollar more or two, but in reality, it saves Home Shield more money instead of sending somebody that don’t know what to do and they resort back to the company.
So, if the appliance with a problem is a GE, AHS should send a GE rep. That'd be easier and more efficient. It would save their good reputation with the customer and at the same time, the manufacturer that owns the equipment would repair it faster which would save a few dollars more compared to sending two or three different techs that just end up messing the piece of equipment. It also makes the appliance repairable. Some other third-party repair company would say that they couldn't repair the appliance and Home Shield would end up buying their customer a new one. I've seen that happen all the time and even my neighbor had the same thing with their dishwasher. The dude came out and didn’t know what to do. They ended up buying a new washing machine and Home Shield replaced their old one for nothing.

American Home Shield's customer service has been really good. The communication has been really good as well and the portal that they have is really helpful. I submit my claims online and the website is very easy to navigate through. Then they usually send me a text pretty fast. American Home Shield's contractors are very professional but their flexibility is not the best. If I submit the claim in the morning, I usually get a response from the contractor during the afternoon. But that is just for the consultation of setting the schedule time. I pay about $75 per call but if the claim needs urgent attention, I'd be willing to pay an additional 25 bucks to expedite it.

Recently I had a claim on my microwave. AHS had A-1 Appliance to fix it and they did a very good job. However, I’m not renewing my account with American Home Shield. They were a little annoying about my renewal. They were pushy and were pestering me, and I didn’t like that. Furthermore, at $1,500, it wasn’t worth it to renew. The reduced coverage wasn’t worth paying for me because I live in a condo. It doesn’t have a washer-dryer and only has air conditioning. The main costs are not that expensive, so I decided it wasn’t worth paying $500 a year for nothing.

Then, the tech showed up early at about quarter to 2 o'clock. He called and told me he was on his way and I told him that I'd be there at 3 o'clock. So, when I came home from work, he was sitting in the driveway then he started working right away. He replaced the springs on my garage door and everything has been working well since then. It also gave us more peace of mind that the other spring wasn’t gonna break because when one of them was broken, the other was doubling its capacity. So there was more strain on it. If I turn in a request for appliances or some other service request, I’ve had good luck with American Home Shield. But if I have to turn in a plumbing problem, the companies that they send out are not professional at all, and they mess up more than they fix. One policy should have renewed last month, but I didn’t renew it for that reason. In the last five years AHS have sent A-1 Plumbing, out, and they are terrible.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

My garage door wasn't closing all the way. I was tired of messing with it so I wanted a professional come in and fix it. American Home Shield had a very reasonable time sending somebody out. It was like a day or two which for me was fast enough. My wife was at the house when the contractor Flash Garage Door Service came out. She said the technician was very friendly and was on there for 20 minutes. He fixed the garage door and my wife was happy with it. It's still working good. As far as fixing household items and appliances, American Home Shield seems to be adequate in everything they're offering. I'm getting the service that I thought I would be getting.

I’ve never had a hard time with American Home Shield so having it fixed was pretty smooth. It took a day to schedule, and then the contractor came the next day. The only issue I ran into was it took multiple iterations to get it done ‘because they have to evaluate and order parts. If that was not the right part, they gotta order another part and come back. It took them three tries to get it completely fixed. But everything’s been working great after the repair.

The AC worked but I couldn’t get any air into the house. There was a sheet blocking it because it’s winterized and I didn’t know that. The company came out and removed it. But then, I called again because I needed them to come back out because the AC wasn’t really cooling the house as well as it should’ve been. Throughout the day, it would get hot and the AC wasn’t really working to its fullest. AHS re-dispatched the company back out. The company called me, talked about coming back out, but they never did. So after that first time, I asked AHS if they could do a different company and they said that the company was the one they use and only one out here that do that. I felt like the company was not very good and the second time they didn’t even come back out. AHS did great and were professional, it’s just the company out here kinda sucks. I’ve done work on the AC and it’s working better now. I don’t need anyone to come out now.

There was a loud noise whenever the heater would be turned on in our furnace. We submitted a claim for it online. We originally were signed up with a different group, who I was extremely disappointed with. They cancelled on us twice. I put in the claim on a Tuesday and it took them two days to even schedule a time. Then, they cancelled on us, rescheduled, like they would just come on Friday, then rescheduled for Monday due to “weather”. But then, on Monday, after I stayed home for two days to make sure that they showed up from work, they cancelled, failed to let me know that they had cancelled, and then, I had to get a second person out there. So, I was very unhappy there. Summer Breeze who came next was great. They responded right away. They called to confirm the appointment and I have no complaints with them whatsoever.

We saw some dampness in our wall and was trying to determine whether or not there was a leak and if so, where. It was easy to submit a claim to AHS. I just flipped on the site, told them what I needed, waited for them to bill me and then had Everest contact me. This is our fifth year with AHS, so I'm pretty comfortable with their website. They usually have a standard window when to expect a contractor, like within 24 hours. The young guy Everest sent was very thorough, very professional and easy to deal with. He checked for the leak. We couldn't determine where the leak was, but we'll have to wait and see. But overall, everything was good. AHS was pretty easy to deal with. The warranty is certainly not inexpensive but it has value for the services they provide. The warranty worked for us. So take a look at AHS and see if you can justify the expense, and if so, go for it.

He lifted the machine up, tilted it back, looked at everything and I showed him where the water would be coming out. He made the assessment from that and said that the transmission was gone. The contractor and AHS also said that it wasn't worth it to be fixed and that I could get a new one. They sent me some that I could look at but then I wanted to upgrade because I wanted the new kind that didn't have the little thing in the middle. The faucet connected to my house got broken so we called American Home Shield to file the claim on a Saturday. A contractor came out Sunday afternoon and when I got home, it was fixed. The faucet has been working well ever since. AHS customer service was fine and my issue with the faucet was taken care of but when I had an issue with my refrigerator before, it took them two months to do something with it. The contractor kept on coming out here to fix it and they did not do their jobs. AHS was not communicating well with the company.
It was my first time with those people, so I have requested for them not to be somebody who we would call on again and if we could get them off our list. I probably called AHS 20 times for my refrigerator. I was thankful enough to get one person at the end but I also had to call and request for a supervisor. Given my recent experience, it went well. They gave a 24-hour time frame on when the contractor would contact me and that contractor contacted me within a few hours.
The contractor came out, identified himself properly, and got right to work. Previous to coming out, he asked me some questions about the unit so he could see if he needed a part, he could get what he needed. He was very prompt, found the issue, went above and beyond, and cleaned up some lint from inside the unit. So, it was very well. The dryer performs like it’s new since the repair. We needed to have an electrician troubleshoot two outlets that, for some reason, were not working. It was not something that a consumer could do and I filed the claim with American Home Shield. I did it over the phone and it was much simpler than I ever imagined. Often, when you call, voice prompts don’t understand what you're saying and it gets you repeating yourself. But these voice prompts worked so well. They understood exactly and it was very smooth. American Home Shield promised a response from the contractor within 24 hours and that did happen within the timeframe. Then GJC came out within a couple of days. It was very timely and the contractor was excellent.
He was very professional. He followed directions, showed up on time and was dressed professionally. The truck was nice too. He came in and was cooperative and quiet. He went about his work very methodically. He knew exactly what to test, had all the proper equipment and fixed it really easily because he knew what he was doing. He found where there were some disconnects and he just reconnected them. He did the troubleshooting where he thought there could be a problem and he was correct. It was no big deal.
He also checked the box downstairs and made sure all the power was powering properly. In fact, he didn’t just work on the outlet. He had gone to the box first. Inexperienced people may often take a different method but my understanding is that you check the box first. Overall, the experience was so easy. I really didn’t expect that. But it's no reflection on the company. It's just the way of the world today. You buy warranties and then when you need help, it's another story. But this was great and I've already recommended American Home Shield to a couple of friends.

Since January, my husband and I have been inconvenienced by AHS' contractor Jerry and Michael's. We've had issues with our two refrigerators. My husband was told not to leave work early because their guy said he was gonna be here. But he never showed up on each one. My husband couldn't do it anymore. My husband was told not to leave early anymore from work anymore. The technician showed up two hours late and my husband could've stayed at work. We tried to get a hold of him but he didn't get on his cell.
I kept telling AHS how many times the technician had been out here - five times. How many times does a customer paying for these services have to go through this with somebody who is inefficient and incompetent? AHS needs to get that technician off their list. Supposedly, they don't even get paid for these service calls. Supposedly, he's gonna get paid after he puts something in.
I've never heard of somebody coming back five times to fix something that should've been fixed on the first diagnostic. He put in a part and now he's saying that's per the American Home Shield warranty. The agent today told me that Jerry & Michael's put down on their report that they submitted last night that the guy was out here last night but he was not out here. Per the diagnostic that supposedly he did, two new parts are now needed. On the first diagnostic, that should've showed. This guy is shady.
I had to keep telling my husband to empty the vegetable bins because water accumulates. We can't even store anything in our vegetable bins. The water still pools after the guy's steaming on April 9th. That didn't work again because he doesn't know what he's doing. Our refrigerator is worse now than January. There's more water coming in the vegetable bins. At one point, we lost food because it was off for 24 hours. It was a nightmare. It pisses me off and I hope AHS listens to this.
I called AHS' customer service a third time. They put me on hold and they talked to a manager to get an approval. Long story short, today I just found out that if another guy comes out from a separate company to give a second opinion and maybe it could be the correct one now, we have to pay another $75 service fee. I hope whoever is listening to this would listen. I don't want somebody to go through this crap.
We pay AHS every month. But they're not looking after us. They're looking after their contracts with their idiots. I've been on the phone and I've been on the live chat every time this problem happens. It's bad. We get something on our emails from AHS asking about the service of the technician. I even put down so other people know that the guy shows up two hours late.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

We had two issues. One was the toilet in the downstairs area of the house that was leaking, and there was a small leak under the kitchen sink. And when the contractor came out, he looked at the toilet, and assessed it and found that, apparently, whoever owned it before us had put tile down there, but they didn't do anything to raise where the seal was. So the seal was never actually touching the toilet, so that was the leak there. And he fixed that, and it's been fine.
The kitchen sink, the pipe running from the garbage disposal to the main-drain wasn't put in properly. And so he redid that, but we're still having the leak there. So they're coming back today to look at it and see what else is going on. My only issue with the whole thing was when we found that the kitchen sink was still leaking, I called the company, High Priority, because when the plumber came, he said the work is under warranty for 60 days. So I called them back, and said the kitchen sink is still leaking. And they said they can't do it with us calling them, we have to go through the home warranty people again. So that seemed like extra red tape. It just made it take longer to get somebody out here.
And even though the plumber said their work was warrantied for 60 days, American Home Shield says that it's only 30. So that was a discrepancy that I wasn’t thrilled about. But other than that, the day that I talked to High Priority Plumbing, they transferred me over to American Home Shield, and they got it set up. It was really only a day later.
The plumber was great. He seemed to be very knowledgeable and knew exactly what to do for the toilet. He showed me in each instance what was going on, which I appreciated. A lot of times, they'll just start working and never mention anything till they're done. But he seemed very professional and efficient, so I don't have any complaints about that. We also call when we file claims and the representatives are great.

I had a drain that wouldn’t clear if we flushed and there were a couple of slow drains as well. I called American Home Shield initially but then I filed the claim online and it went very smoothly. When I made the initial appointment, I had told the contractor that I had the faucet in the master bathroom tub that I needed to have replaced. I explained the situation that I was renovating my master shower. And when I got around to the point of replacing the faucet, it was above my paygrade. I didn’t know how to slit copper and the wall was open so everything was exposed. When the young man got there, he said it was gonna be $500 to replace that faucet. Needless to say, I declined. Since the repair, the toilet is still the same as it was. If there’s no solid in it, it flushes fine. But if there are, even just tissue, it almost overflows every time. Fortunately, I got two bathrooms. Other than that, I've had great service from American Home Shield.

This company's customer service is a complete joke! They were quick to send out a plumber to diagnose our issue, but then allow 24-48 hrs to receive it before approving/resolving your claim. When we followed up 48 hours later, the rep. says the plumber tried to submit without success, give another 24 hrs!! That is 3 days without hot water in a home with small children! They didn't even have a valid reason for the failed attempt to submit the diagnosis. What kind of company accepts this from its contractors that represent them?! Furthermore, when I requested to speak to a service manager, I was told nothing further would be done by a manager and not connected to one. Beyond frustrating. I sincerely hope this is the experience of few and not the many with this company.

I have been with AHS for over 10 years, but this may be my last. Service request cost have almost doubled during that time, but service has gotten worse. They want you make payment upfront, for service calls, but they do not follow up to make sure work has been completed. I just got off phone with customer service for service request that I placed on 3/16. They told me the parts were ordered on 3/30, 9 days after the tech came to the house. Parts were delivered to the tech 4/8, but as of 4/20 no one has called or attempted to make repairs. But online it showed that repair was completed. My last 3 repairs have followed this same pattern - they take payment upfront then take over 30 days to fix. I have removed all credit cards on file, so they cannot auto renew while I search for a new company. Service is poor. Do not expect any follow up from AHS, once you make your payment.

Back in January, we had an issue with the heater. I called American Home Shield and they sent out someone from Perry Mechanical. They diagnosed the part and said that the heater needed some kind of valve. AHS approved it and then the contractor put the part in and I was charged 11 pounds of Freon. That was in March. This April, we had the same problem where the heater wasn't working again. So, I called AHS and they sent out this other company, Total Air Care. They first diagnosed it as the same problem that was fixed and they wanted to charge me for more Freon which wasn’t right. The AHS lady that I spoke with told me that it wasn’t right since I already paid for that and it was under the warranty time. So, she approved after a song and a dance with a couple of people.
And then, I got a call from the repair place and they just declined the claim. I asked them to give me someone's name. Finally, I got ahold of a guy who said he would take care of it. Everything went through finally and someone from Total Air Care came out. He was good. He did some troubleshooting and figured out what the problem was. He found out that it was a totally different piece that presents itself the same way and he fixed it, and I was happy. The heater has been working ever since. AHS stepped up the last time because I didn't have to pay for the Freon again.
During the claims process with AHS, I would talk to one person and I may not talk to that person again. So, if I get something resolved with person A and for some reasons something happened, I have to call back and get person B. Person B would say, "Well, that's not how it works." I have to explain the problem and get it resolved multiple times. And depending on the skill of the person I'm dealing with and handling it, they might not have the same knowledge as the person that fixed it or came to a conclusion with me. Communication is lacking on the different people. Person A should know what person B is on, or they shouldn't say anything.
Also, some of AHS's policies are a little vague. We had an issue with the water where we had a leak in the outside faucet. The leak in the faucet was covered and the contractor that AHS sent was able to fix it. But the guy had knocked out a block and it had an eight-inch hole. He said that they don't fix that as it was not covered and that I had to fix it myself.

He didn't let us know that we needed to call him back to get this work done. We thought American Home Shield was gonna send somebody, so I was sitting with a hole in my kitchen's ceiling for a month. We even had a couple of parties during those weeks as it's a new house and everybody was looking at the ceiling hole rather than the house. That was embarrassing.
Then I decided that nobody's gonna come, so I had to call American Home Shield. Once we reached them out, they said that they needed to be told about that. When I submitted claims to American Home Shield in the past, I would get an operator. Now however, I do the claim via an automated system and it just asks me what appliance has an issue. I say it and then it tells me that they have to charge me my service fee. Lately, I’ve had three different things come up in my house. One of them was a garbage disposal that wasn't working at all. Something had gotten caught in there and I thought I was gonna have to get it replaced. However, it didn't need to be replaced as the tech from ASAP Plumbing who was sent worked it and found the piece of metal that fell in there. That was a relief. I know AHS would have taken care of it if it needed to be replaced. Still, the repair was well taken care of and I haven’t had any problems with my garbage disposal at all since.
I've also had different problems with my upstairs unit. Every time someone comes out, the problem is something different. It kinda scares me that I might have to get another unit for my upstairs. Also, when I have to pay an extra price for the freon for my AC, they only cover a certain amount which is a bit irritating. Still, everything has been good with AHS and I've been happy with them. A lot of my friends and people I know left AHS and complained about them. I've told them AHS has been good to me. I’m not always calling but then in this past month, I’ve had to call three times for the AC, the garbage disposal, and then yesterday, I finally got the washer guy. I pay the service fee and they get it done. I recommend AHS. Everybody should try them.

It could be the vendor who is the problem and we need to tell AHS to find us another vendor or give us a solution. So, for a certain extent, we need to contact American Home Shield again. We are happy with AHS but for the final solution, we are not.

Our AC was freezing up on me on the outside unit. Submitting an online claim with American Home Shield for it was very streamlined and simple. Then, within a couple of days, Sevier Climate Control said they were to come out. The tech then realized that the filter in the attic was dirty and that we just needed to clean it off. So in a nutshell, he fixed it within about two minutes. And since then, everything's been working great.

Submitting a claim for the water heater was frustrating at first. American Home Shield had canceled our account at one point without our request. We’ve been members with them for about 27 years, and then all of a sudden, we had that problem. Then when they finally said that they would cover it and that we are still customers with them, we were without hot water for at least a month because during the process of the plumbing, they insisted on replacing parts when the initial plumber that they sent out said that the water heater was corroded inside and that it already exceeded its lifetime and needed to be replaced.
In the end, they ended up replacing the whole heater. But the person from AHS that we dealt with was very courteous and very kind. It wasn’t the person that we were frustrated with, it was more with the company. We had been long-term customers, and it was like we were getting tossed on the wayside. But we seemed to have resolved that. The plumber that they sent out was fabulous. And the water heater is working flawlessly.

The AC was making a noise and I thought that the evaporator was clogged with dirt. I called in a claim with AHS and they told me right then and there who would be coming. They sent out a tech from Anthem Mechanical Palm Springs and he showed up a little early but it was okay. When he checked the evaporator, there was no problem there. Then he went out and when I turned on the air conditioner, it was working though it was chattering a little bit.
But all of a sudden, as he was getting ready to take it apart and check the Freon, the condenser fan quit while he was standing over it. So, he changed that out and put the unit all back together. It’s been working just fine since and I was really happy with my experience. All in all, if anybody asked, I’d recommend AHS. So far, just about everybody I know does their own work at home. But not everybody’s AC certified and I’m sure my neighbors are gonna end up with an AC problem, so I’ll let them know about AHS.

I submitted a claim with AHS over the phone and dealing with their reps was really professional. I was told that they would call me within 24 hours and the contractor from RAB Electric was able to come at a very reasonable time. They asked what was going on, and I explained it to them. Then the guy looked at it, explained what happened, and then fixed it. The repair is crucial. And they did it in a very timely manner, so I was without electricity for not too long. Since then, it's not a problem anymore. I was also given suggestions on how to prevent it from happening again, so I could understand what was going on. My experiences with American Home Shield have all been positive. I’ve been making simple phone calls and have been having someone come out. The first one was to fix the locks on my house and that was very quick. The guy came out, changed over the locks, and was done within an hour. It was the same thing with the clogged drain where the plumber came out and he was done within an hour. When my laundry wouldn’t drain itself, I tried to clear it on my own with Drano and with my own hand crank snake but it wouldn’t work. A guy from Summit Plumbing came out, and he was very good and had the necessary tools to get the job done. He also gave me some good advice on how to keep it from happening again.

We moved into our house in late November and the purchase came with American Home Shield. We have had several issues - plumbing, furnace etc. Issues are either not covered or workmen awful. We have been fighting a plumbing issue (sewer) since late November. Most recent plumber that was recommended by AHS said...(over the phone mind you) that our issue was in the yard and that AHS wouldn’t cover and I would have to pay an additional $400. AHS did nothing to help us and said no one else was available for my area. I had to find and pay for my OWN repair only to discover that the pipe was broken INSIDE the house and likely by one of AHS’s referred repair people. Now that I have escalated the issues with their company I can’t get anyone to return calls. DO not spend a dime on this warranty, it will cost you way more than it is worth! AVOID!!!!

I paid $191 and submitted all the paperwork via email and fax for reimbursement. Now they tell me they won't reimburse me because they didn't have anyone in the area to work that job. I have paid $1511 on a contract that I tried to use for the first time and they couldn't do the work.
This is the absolute worst organization I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I have filed a claim with my bank for reimbursement for all the money I have spent over the last two years. My wife was on hold for 20 minutes trying to get a number for their claims office speak with someone directly. They came back on the line and said they did not have a number for her to call. We submitted a warranty claim through AHS and they offer only TWO local contractors for pool repairs. One came to our home yesterday and I was APPALLED at how unprofessional, and rude the man was. He entered our backyard with no permission, was accusatory when speaking with me, then submitted the claim and said it was a pre-existing condition which was completely false. He had zero knowledge of the installation of the heather and again, submitted false information to AHS.
Clearly, our claim was denied - we are not seeking a second opinion. When I call this contractor to discuss the situation with him, he CUSSED AT ME and hung up on me! I WAS SHOCKED! I cannot believe AHS operates their business with these kind of contractors. I'm hoping and praying our second opinion contractor will at least take the time to understand the situation. The HVAC people they sent are incompetent. They misdiagnosed the issue twice and charged me $500 and that didn’t fix it. The guy replaces a reversing valve and welded the piece on top of my unit causing a burn to my outdoor unit and Home Shield is saying that they don’t get involved with that. Home Shield sent the people to my house and now that they have burned my outdoor unit and charged me $500 for a repair and that was not the problem and somehow every rep I speak with at Home Shield tells me that they can’t do anything. Home Shield is not helping me with this at all. My AC has been out for 3 weeks. No urgency at all. It is hot in my house and I have a 16 month old child and I am getting no assistance at all. This process is taking entirely too long.
After two failed visits from one technician, the company sent a senior tech who found that the previous guy didn’t even fill the unit with refrigerant. The senior tech said it was empty (mind you I paid this company $500 which was the charge for refrigerant). I have placed over 7 calls to Home Shield about this and they give me excuses and have no concern with helping me get my AC fixed. At this point, I think that AHS is a scam. I have paid premiums for over a year and both times that I have needed service, the issue has not been fixed. I paid for a warranty to protect my home and yet I’m spending money and nothing is getting resolved. At this point, I’ll have to call my own HVAC company to come out and try to verify what the issue is or find the issue. I am completely dissatisfied with Home Shield and they have lost a customer. They have done nothing to help me other than say we sent a message to our contractor relations team.
I can’t believe that 3 weeks have passed and my system is still down, I have burn marks on the outside of my unit, I’ve paid $625, taken off work 3 times to come meet the technician, placed 7 calls to Home Shield and another 10+ calls to the contractor and the issue is nowhere near being resolved. The customer service at Home Shield is terrible and they are literally no help.
I even asked Home Shield to speak with the contractor about returning my $500 because the part wasn’t bad and I didn’t need refrigerant. This contractor is just throwing parts at my system and I am just being dragged along for the ride. You would think that Home Shield would step up and take some responsibility since they are the ones who chose this company. I am left on my own trying to call the client Lang and handle this mess that Home Shield started by hiring the people and then they have the nerve to tell me that I have to contact the contractor because they have their own insurance and secondary damage has nothing to do with Home Shield.
This is literally the worst customer service experience that I have ever had. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and cancelling my contract as soon as this mess gets handled. My thermostat says it’s 89 degrees in my house, there is no breeze and my wife and I have allergies and I can’t open the windows to get any air and fans affect my sinuses. It’s to the point that we may have to go and stay at a hotel to be comfortable and not sweat all night until this foolishness is over. I am disgusted with Home Shield. This is not how you treat customers.
I am sure that Home Shield records conversations so they can look up my issue and verify that everything I have said is true. Do what I am paying you to do and get a competent person to fix my AC tomorrow. Anywhere else, not having AC is considered a priority at least to the point that it’s fixed within a few days instead of a few weeks.

American Home Shield had a preventative maintenance that they were doing this year. It's $85 and they have someone come out and just check. I set my AC on 76 but when I wake up in the morning, it's on 69. So, I needed to do it. Brown Air Conditioning came out and they were fantastic. They found that the system works fine.
In my most recent claim, my garbage disposal was not working and the contractor said there was food dropped in it. I didn’t feel like that was what was wrong with it but he said that’s what it was, and it worked. After 45 days, it broke completely and I had to pay another fee. They had to replace the whole thing. It’s kinda frustrating I had to pay $150. I wasn't happy about that but the garbage disposal is working now and it’s awesome. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and it takes a while to understand how it works. When my pool wasn't working, I didn't know what to pick such as why it was not working. You have to pick what it is and if you picked the wrong thing and the contractor comes out, looks at that thing and that's not what's wrong with it, then you have to pay again for someone to come out.
On my first year with AHS, the fan was not working and the electrician who came out didn’t fix it and left. He told me they had to order parts and would be back. I didn't even get an opportunity to call back AHS because I was waiting for this person to call me back to tell me that the parts are in so they could come fix it. They never ordered parts and they didn’t want to. He didn't wanna deal with me and wanted somebody else to do it. They were telling me that AHS wouldn’t pay for it and that it has been their history with how these things work out. I was upset because their technician lied to me and I was sick of waiting. If I would have known that they weren't gonna fix it and why they weren't going to fix it, then I would have done something else.
The contractor did the same thing to my doorbell. AHS won’t pay for the doorbell but they would pay for the wiring or if something was wrong and then, they wouldn’t check it. The contractor made a comment that the homeowner was getting him to look into all these other things. I was having an electrical issue on the house and I didn’t know how the policy worked. I was also having trouble with my ceiling fan and my microwave. The plug in the kitchen doesn’t work and so, I was thinking electrical. They told me that these were all individual things I had to call on. I paid every single time to AHS. When I renewed, it changed my policy so that I had the same coverages and everything but I pay more premium now because I've had too many claims and it was because it wasn't explained how it works.

However, the techs AHS was sending earlier on weren't very good. Also, AHS's techs for airconditioning get overbooked if something happens during the hot weather. Still, submitting claims has been pretty good lately. The techs they have been sending are more qualified. While I'm considering dropping the warranty as the monthly fee is a little over 50 bucks now, having the coverage has been helpful.

I have had American Home Shield for 10 years now and their claim process is really easy. I do it over the phone. In one claim, someone from Texas Best Heating & Air had to come out and replace the transformer. The drain pan had overflowed and shorted out the transformer in the air conditioner so he cleaned up the drain tube and got it going again. Then, One Hour Heating & Air came out and replaced the whole system for me. And that was outstanding. They were in and out in half a day, which was nice.
However, American Home Shield's coverage for Freon is very hard to swallow. I have an older style of air conditioner and when I put Freon in, I use a more expensive Freon. They would only pay $10 a pound for the Freon and the Freon costs $80 a pound so that leaves us with $70 a pound. If I'm looking at $600 to $800 out of pocket if they had to fix the air conditioner, then it didn’t seem like much of a plan to do. So, due to that Freon issue, I’ve had to drop their service and I’ve gone a different route. As for customer service, I’ve ran into a couple of telephone operators who didn't have English as their strong suit. It was very hard to get across what I needed done. Other than that, they’ve always been really receptive and responsive to what I needed.

The air conditioner stopped working and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I had a fine interaction with their rep but we were without an air conditioner for two weeks. Luckily, it wasn't a super-hot time but it was dragged out. We were given a choice of waiting for two weeks and get the part replaced for free or have someone to do it immediately and pay $600. We chose to have someone do it immediately and it was still five days before they got out. We waited half that long and still had to pay the $600 but it wasn’t a big deal. It would’ve been terrible if it had been in the middle of the summer, but luckily it wasn’t. Everything was okay other than the amount of time it took. It was unnecessary to keep us waiting that long to let us know what was going on.
Since the repair, the air conditioner has been okay but when the technician came back down from the attic and looked at the control panel inside the house, he said that it wasn’t working. He said that he had one in the truck and he could replace it. He put one on there and I didn’t notice it after he was gone, but it’s very inferior to the one we had and it doesn’t work very well. I even called them to come back out and look at it because I couldn’t read the printout. The numbers are so poorly defined that I have to stand on a stool to look at it. The other one we had was very accurate and it told what the temperature was outside but this one was not. It says it’s 68 when you know it’s more like 72.
When I called the contractor out the second time to look at it, he said there was nothing wrong with it. He could read it because he was taller than I was and I just gave up. After he left, I figured out if I stood on the stool, then I could see it but I’m not happy with it and I’ve already spent nearly $700 plus 100 to American Home Shield. If they come out again, they’ll say that they will replace it and it’ll be $400 so I’m living with it. That was not the fault of the AHS but the people they sent out. The contractors weren’t bad but they didn’t have any interest in helping me with the control panel. The air conditioning seems fine so far.

American Home Shield was recommended by a family member. They’re usually good but I had a bad time a couple of months ago when I had to call for an electrical problem with my smoke detector. The company called and made an appointment. And then, at the last minute, the guy said that he had had an accident on the job. He had to go to urgent care and that he would call me when he came out. But it sounded like he was at a bar ‘cause it was a Friday and I could hear clanking, voices, and music. So I tried calling him. I didn't get any callback so I left messages.
Another thing was that $100 had already been taken out of my account. I called back to get the refund which took about 45 minutes ‘cause I couldn’t understand the AHS' rep. I tried my hardest but I was just fed up. She put me on hold as she was trying to call the person. They didn't answer, and then, she put me on hold again ‘cause she said she was gonna try again. They never got a hold of him and he never called back. She tried to convince me that they'd send another company but I told her that I just wanted the refund. But generally, the companies they send out are very professional. They would call me right away, make an appointment and show up. Like recently, the door switch was bypassed on the furnace. It turned out that the switch was broken so Ambient Air Heating and Cooling had to replace the switch.

I've never been so mad and disappointed in the company's response, customer service and problem handling! TERRIBLE!! American Home Shield charged me without my consent the annual amount instead of the monthly bill I signed up for. After multiple attempts to get this problem solved with Customer Service, I was told it's gonna take a while to receive my refund while I'm still getting charged. I was left to wait on hold for over an hour and the phone had been hung up on me!!! When I asked how long will it take to receive a refund if I completely cancel my coverage, they said it's a very long process!!

I had looked up some reviews online before canceling my American Home Shield plan and read that others were having issues with AHS still trying to bill after they had canceled. When I canceled my account, I was sure to write down the confirmation # from the phone rep and also logged into my online account and removed my payment method. Sure enough, a few weeks later I get a bill in the mail from AHS saying I am past due. I am now on my third call with AHS... so as others have hopefully pointed out below: Remove your payment methods as soon as you cancel your plan to avoid being charged...

AHS was good in the beginning and I found a great HVAC through the service. I have been attempting to get help. There is a company in the city with a poor reputation I asked them to change. They never did although there are local reports they can confirm. My last straw is this. I moved back to my home state and updated my information on two occasions I spoke to AHS. I put in an online request yesterday for service and followed up with a call to verify they received the information and verify they had my contact representative in the city my property is located.
The plumbing leak got worse today and I called because I never heard from the vendor. The hold times are terrible and critical if you are in an emergency. This person Jennet was the worse representative. It was as if she ignored... no, she ignored the urgency of the situation and I had to demand a manager. They never allow this. They leave you on hold. I was pleading that they call another company because the other was not answering and never tried to reach me. She told me they called a phone number I requested updates to in October 2018 because I was no longer in the other state. I attempted to chat for a manager. Demetri was awful and not concerned. My place is leaking and the company AHS who I was with for almost ten years did not help. Their customer service has tanked and they only want to collect $75.00 payments with no follow up to see what happened in the process. I forgave, but this situation is too much.

Called AHS. They sent out a contractor who did not even look inside the pool heater, he said because I had an inline chlorinator it was chemical damage, (it was empty). Sent out another contractor. Said parts were missing. I hired an independent pool company. He says it was worn out, no parts are missing, and no chemical damage... AHS in my opinion just wants to fix the little things and when it comes to honor their contract for replacing they look for ways to deny...

After many years of coverage, thinking that I was covered from any major, "catastrophic" events, it finally happened. Two A/c units failed at the same time, with each one needing a new evaporator coil. After the tech diagnosed the problem, a few days later, I got a call from AHS, telling me that only the coil itself was covered, the first $10 of refrigerant, was covered. However, the remaining, $85/pound of refrigerant was not, as well as all of the other necessary parts to complete the repair.
The total for the parts NOT covered was $1770 for one unit. For the other unit, it was $1325 (not covered). The actual covered amount was $234 for the first one and $214 for the second. When I asked for them to send me a confirmation in writing, that "they would request that but they couldn't actually do it". To date, I have not received the information. In my opinion, this company is a rip-off. They will do anything to delay and to not pay for repairs!! I am taking a buy out and cancelling my coverage. In my view, it is fraud, plain and simple. Stay away!!

They fixed a leak and it started leaking again 5 months later. The 2nd time was my ice maker on my refrigerator. They fixed it and within 4 Months it stopped working again. They have a policy that if it fails within 90 days they'll fix it for free so I have zero recourse. The last straw was when I called to get the ice maker fixed AGAIN they charged me the service fee before the service was performed. Who the heck does that? Your mechanic doesn't charge you before they fix your car! Your dentist doesn't charge you before he works on your teeth Etc. Etc. I did the math and I could've saved money just by opening a bank account for emergencies and putting in 50 Dollars per check.

GE was really good to me. They came out and let me back up really quick. I first contacted American Home Shield about my stove. They sent out another company. That company tried to fix it and less than six months later, that same item broke more of the stove. I've contacted American Home Shield, and the company came out and repaired it again. It broke again. This time, I called American Home Shield and told them I didn't want that company to come out. They sent out GE and within one time, they had the whole thing fixed without a problem. So if I'll ever contact American Home Shield again about my stove or any of my GE Appliances, I’m going to want GE to come out because they were fantastic.
My latest debacle with American Home Shield is my garage door opener stopped working. And it was very intermittent to not working at all. The guy that they sent out turned around and told me that American Home Shield would not allow him to make a claim on my garage door opener because he could get it to work. Even though while he was here, it had stopped working intermittently, and he still said, "No, I can't do nothing about it," and left that it was working even though it wasn't. And then he tried to make dumb claims like it's RF interference. I'm in my 50's and I have over 30-years experience with RF because that's the field I'm in. As I tried to explain it to him that he was sitting here and telling me a fat-face-bold lie to my face, he still wouldn't believe me.
So, my wife turned around and called the company back again. So now, he came out and instead of fixing my garage door, he put a replacement part. It's like an addition. It's like an extra controller. So now, instead of my garage door controlling my garage, I have a remote unit connected to my garage door opener that will now open then close my garage, which has been doing it successfully. Instead of American Home Shield allowing to replace the parts that were actually broken in my garage door, which is probably the logic word, they're making him jump around hoops in doing this. I'm really not happy at all. My garage door is working for the moment because of the workaround he did. But he really didn't fix my garage door. He just put a bandage on it. Also, overall, I've tried calling and waiting, sitting on the phone for over half an hour sometimes, and I can never get anybody at American Home Shield. It's horrible.

We had an electrical issue with our pool. I called American Home Shield over the phone to submit a claim and the experience was great. When I made the call, the wait time was average and I had somebody on the phone within five minutes or so. AHS had the service scheduled. This was on a Friday and they had a contractor, United Electric Company, come out right away the next Monday. United Electric is a really good company. The electrician was great and the service went really well. He explained to me what the problem was and why the electricity had gone out in our pool. Then he replaced the fuse that was necessary for the problem to be fixed. He fixed the problem and the repair only took a total of an hour. Everything has been working fine since the repair.

He had three other kinds with him for three different furnace manufacturers, but he didn’t have the one I needed. He went and got it, brought it back, and put the new control panel in. The service has been 50-50. I had a secondary repair requested that was not so good. I had a leak outside my house and when the tech called me, he said he didn't know if he was certified for Indiana 'cause we're at the border. He proceeded to make an appointment, then he said he'd get back with me to make sure that he was qualified to work on those. But he ended up going here and telling my wife that he didn't cover it, and he walked away. I ended paying for that charge. Aside from that, he has poor reviews.
I recently had the ice maker in my refrigerator thawed out, and the tech from Windings came in and was professional. Making that claim was relatively easy 'cause I did it online and I was given a time and place, and Windings met those requirements. Overall the screening process regarding what is covered and what is not covered could be improved. Next time, I will be very wary of the contractor assigned to me through American Home Shield.

I got rid of American Home Shield. I wouldn't do it again and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody given the experience that I had. When you talk to them on the phone, they lead you to believe they are such helpful service and that they pay for any issues that come up. I ended up paying a monthly service and then they called some guy out from San Antonio for a plumbing issue I had. The guy who came to fix the dishwasher and said there was a blockage from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal and I needed a plumber. I ended up spending $500 and the only thing I got fixed was a little pinched wire in the wall. For everything that I paid for, I didn't see that the home warranty benefited me at all.
AHS did not wanna pay for anything and the people they send out were incompetent. The guy from San Antonio told them that he put a spring and something in the faucet in the bathroom and he most certainly did not. He didn't even come out here with any tools. He was messing with it with his hands and didn't get it to stop. I did not feel they were confident. They were passing the problem off and by the time I got a plumber out to check on what the one said, it was not at all. He had to call AHS back.
It was a mess and I hated it. I didn't think it was worth the money with the exception of the guy who did the electrical who was absolutely very good at what he did. Furthermore, one of the issues I had with the washing machine was that it was leaking when I turn it on. My house was empty when I bought it and there is no way to check for a water leak. I was told it was a visible thing and the guy said that he had to tear in the wall and redo all the pipes. There was none of that. My experience has not been good at all.

I've had American Home Shield for probably 25 years on four different homes. It's very easy to schedule the service for a routine check on the air conditioner or the heater. I do it online. The person who came was Luis. He was here for a fairly short period of time, maybe half an hour. He reported that the air conditioner was a fairly new unit and there were no problems with it, and everything was good.
We didn't turn the air conditioner on for about a week after that. It hadn't gotten warm enough. Subsequently, when we turned the air conditioner on, we discovered that it was not blowing air as cold as we felt it should be. As a matter of fact, we turned it on about 10:00am and it was 79 degrees in the house. We set it at 65. It was on all day and all night, and by 8:00 the next morning, it had only dropped the temperature to 69 degrees. I called and they said they would send him back out. They had to cancel that appointment last week and he's supposed to be here some time next week to check it out and check the Freon level. I don't know if he did that or not, but they were very kind and quick to respond to our concerns.

The freezer stopped working, and so we called American Home Shield who then immediately set us up with GE. They came out, found that the part of the appliance that went out was a piece that was not replaceable. And so they had to replace the entire unit, which American Home Shield did. They set us up with the department that takes care of that. They were quick. It took about a week and a half to have everything said and done. Luckily, we have an outdoor freezer in our garage, so it wasn’t the end of the world. And they replaced the entire unit, and had it delivered and installed.
American Home Shield’s customer service is great. We’ve had two appliances replaced. The refrigerator was perfect. It was pretty much the exact model of the refrigerator that we had but just a newer model of it. Unfortunately, we had to have a dishwasher also replaced. And the measurement did not seem like they matched up to what we needed. It was way too small. So, because there’s a no-return policy on that, we had to wind up purchasing a different dishwasher out-of-pocket.
The only thing is the delivery company that American Home Shield uses for appliances in our area is terrible. When there have been questions as to when they can deliver something, they would call like 5:00 o’clock the night before and say, “We’ll be there 8:00 o’clock in the morning.” I’m a teacher, so it’s really hard for me to just be able to call in. But I called in and I made it work, and then they never showed up. And so then, when I tried calling them to let them know that we were here during our appointment time, I never received a phone call back. I never heard anything from them until we got another automated phone call that was, “Oh, we’re gonna be there the next day.”
Luckily, my husband was able to take the time off, but then they didn’t come during the scheduled window when they were supposed to come. I had to call a couple of other times and never received phone calls back. I had to call American Home Shield to have one of the customer service people get a hold of the delivery service for me, and American Home Shield was great with that. They got a hold of them and got everything set up. They came out and got things taken care of.

Me and my husband submitted a request on March the 31st for our kitchen sink to be fixed, it is now April the 17th and we have been through the wringer. They took our service fee without permission, given we are supposed to pay the vendor directly. We've been on hold for hours at a time, people promising callbacks and not getting them. I was on hold for over an hour and they hung up and never called back. Supervisors promising refunds.
The biggest confusion is that 1 vendor said they called but they could not get through but in the same sentence said that they set an appointment and we never answered. They continue to follow a protocol that says they have to get approval from the vendor before being able to transfer to another vendor. I'm completely confused because if the vendor they originally set up never fixed the problem why would you need permission from them to hire someone else to come and fix the problem that they should a fixed from the beginning?
I been with American Home Shield for a few years now, I'd say about 6 or 7, it may be more, and this is the 1st time that I've had this issue. In August of 2018 our AC unit was not cooling properly so we called in a claim with American Home Shield. A vendor was dispatched and they replaced both evaporator coils on both of our units. 5 months later, we noticed water leaking from the ceiling above our attic and noted that the AC unit had been leaking water all over the attic and it had finally begun leaking through the ceiling.
We called the vendor that repaired the AC and was told they were no longer with American Home Shield. American Home Shield referenced their terms and conditions, which stated they do not cover 2nd party damages. However, we could do another claim and they would send another AC repair vendor to repair the AC. They identified that the first AC vendor sent by AHS did not put the proper pan under the AC and didn't plumb for overflow. The second AC vendor repaired the AC gaps and we then had to file a claim against our home insurance to get the water damage to our home repaired and had to pay our standard deductible.
April 2019, and we identify another water leak coming from the ceiling, so again we call the second AC vendor to learn they are no longer with American Home Shield (AHS). We again call AHS and they repeat their terms and conditions, let us know the second AC vendor was no longer with them and that they do not pay for 2nd party damages, however we could file another claim and they would send out a third AC vendor to assess the problem.
The 3rd AC vendor diagnosis was that the second AC vendor did not level the pan proper, therefore the water was going over the pan because it was leaning into the attic. American Home Shield informs us that this would be considered a renovation to our home and therefore its not covered. We have been attempting to get this situation resolved, however to date we have not received a return call from American Home Shield. We are currently in discussion with an attorney to get this situation resolved.
Good afternoon Michelle,

We got a AHS home warranty when we bought our house over the summer and they specifically told us it covered the hot tub. The tub has since got a leak and when I called to file a claim I was informed they only cover Whirlpool... Since ours is a different brand they do not cover it. Additionally, when I called the automated system you are directed to was going to collect the $75 service charge right-of-the-bat without stating only certain tubs were covered. All the system asked was is it a hot tub, not if it is Whirlpool. Before you give them money make sure to talk to a representative to ensure your product is covered.

I called with a leaking valve on April 6th. Someone finally came out on the 10th and spent less than 5 minutes, just changed the packing and said it was fixed. Turned the valve on again on the 14th and it was worse then before the service guy worked on it. I called the service company that day and left a message about coming back to fix it. Didn’t get a call back at all so I called again on the 16th and spoke to someone that said she would look for the paperwork for the job and call me right back. That didn’t happen!
I call American Home Shield on the 17th to tell them the trouble I had with the service company they sent to help and all they will do is contact the same company to get them back to my house unless I pay another service fee to get a different company. They are the ones that chose who to contact in the first place. If American Home Shield finds out a company is treating their customers badly why would they want to keep sending them back? I shouldn’t have to pay a second time to get the work done properly by a different service company, if I’m not satisfied with the first service company they sent out. It’s American Home Shield's responsibility to make sure they send reliable service companies and take the responsibility of going with a different one at no additional cost to their customers, when they find out about a problem with their service contractors. If they want to keep customers that is.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

Original Review: April 17, 2019
I sold my home. As part of the sale I recommended to the buyers that they purchase a home warranty with AHS. I gave them $500 at closing to that end. There was no lapse in coverage from the end of my contract to the beginning of theirs. On the 11th of April I received a notice that I owed $55.41 for a cancellation fee on my contract. Then today, the 16th of April I received a bill for this month for a house I don’t own. I called customer service and explained that the bill for this month is incorrect since I no longer own the house. I also requested that they waive the cancellation fee since there was no lapse in coverage and in fact I had recommended the buyers purchase the same coverage I had.
The first agent I spoke to said she could not waive the fee. I asked that a supervisor call me back so we could discuss waiving the fee in light of the above. I received a call about 20 minutes later from someone who said she was a supervisor. She said she could waive the fee for the bill which shouldn’t have been sent, but not for the cancellation fee. I explained to her what I had explained to the previous agent, but she would not waive the fee. She reminded me repeatedly that my contract said I would have to pay a cancellation fee. I reminded her that I was aware of this, but that wasn’t the point.
I reminded her, that as a courtesy to me for endorsing AHS to the new buyers of my former house, and even paying for a year of their contract with AHS, the least AHS could do; would be to waive the $55.41 cancellation fee. She would not do it, so I asked that her supervisor contact me to discuss this. I also mentioned that I would be happy to take this as high as necessary. I stated that it was not about the money at this point, but the principle. When someone does you a favor you don’t punish them for it. It is also not good business. I am awaiting a call from the next level. If this resolves in the removal of the cancellation fee I will be happy to return to this site and write a follow up review.
Maurice,

I recently had a problem with our oven and I made a claim for it online which was very easy. The tech sent by American Home Shield came out almost right away, within a couple days. We had a problem with our washer recently where the transmission was going out on it, and it was making all kinds of noise. I made the claim at American Home Shield online and it didn’t take long to have the contractors scheduled, and they were out within 72 hours. They couldn't fix it because of the age of the washer and the parts weren’t available, so they went ahead and did a full replacement on it. The turnaround time was very reasonable for the replacement, and the product that they offered as a replacement was equivalent or better than what I had, so I was happy with that. I used the purchasing service to buy a dryer to match the new washer, and the price was actually significantly better than anything I could find locally. It worked out real well.

Our kitchen counter sink was sopped up. AHS sent a guy and he said it clogged up downline and they couldn't fix it. They would have to tear the foundation up and he wanted $7,000. AHS said I could get a second opinion, which I did, and the guy came out and unclogged it. He charged $75 instead of $7,800. I usually call American Home Shield to report issues and they call and tell me that they have somebody coming out. And they call and say, "Give us a time," and they come out and fix it. AHS is great to deal with, except when they don't pay what I wanted done, which is very seldom.

Online, it wouldn’t let me do it. But then when I called in, they fixed it and got me all set up, and everything was ready to go. The contractor was polite. He told me what the problem was and what he was gonna do and how. So, he got my heat running, but he needed a part. So, he said he would be back when the part comes. And about a week later, he called me and said he got the part. He came, put it in, and he was done. The claim was completed in about two weeks. But it took a total of four weeks to fix the issue. I’m not complaining because it really makes no difference to me whether they fix it or replace it as long as I have a working microwave at the end. I called AHS and within a couple of days, a gentleman came out and diagnosed that it was actually a wire that was cut or detached in the attic. He was able to do the repair and was very professional, quick, and great to deal with. I asked to check if we needed any of the Freon, any coolant to top off both. He even checked that and he said, “No, you’re good.” All my experiences with AHS have been favorable. When they send someone out, the response time is good and the job gets done. Sometimes, things get a little more complicated that they thought they fixed it and then something else happens, or they didn’t maybe diagnose it correctly, but that happens rarely.

I have been with American Home Shield for 18 years. I had to have a faucet replaced in my kitchen and my claim experience went very well. The first person that they sent out came out with this elaborate story about what all he had to do in order to fix the faucet, which turned out to be not true. I called American Home Shield and explained to them what the provider said. And I was trying to find out if they could send somebody else out to get a second opinion. The first contractor was talking about how he was gonna have to go down to the crawlspace, and we don't have a basement. And he was gonna have to tear off parts in order to get the faucet fixed. It was a situation where the hot water was not coming out of the hot water side, but the cold water was working.
American Home Shield had already sent one contractor out, and they were the ones that put the faucet on there. And the water was working correctly for two days. Then all of a sudden, it stopped working. Only the cold side would work. So I had to call American Home Shield back and I explained to them that the water had stopped working on our hot water side. And the guy had just put the faucet on two days ago. So they said that there was a complete different issue, and I would have to pay another $75, which I wasn't happy about but I wanted to get my hot water fixed in the kitchen.
We ended up with a third person that came out. The guy wasn't even here 30 minutes and he got it fixed and working. When the first contractor came out, he broke off a little piece of plastic inside the pipe that goes under the sink. And so, it’s blocking the water flow. The third guy that came out just unscrewed it, took out that broken piece, and replaced that little piece and he was done.
It was so frustrating. I went online and gave the second contractor a bad review because I was so frustrated with him. He wasn't even here 10 minutes, and he didn't even try. But when that third contractor came out, he did a really good job. Everything is working perfectly. I would recommend American Home Shield. They were very professional, and they've listened to me when I made the complaint. They really sent somebody else out and they told me that I didn't have to pay $75 for that because I already paid two $75. I shouldn't pay a third $75. So when the gentleman came out, I didn't have to pay him anything.

Unfortunately, he didn't have the part with him, but it didn't take weeks for the part to come back 'cause usually, I'm waiting weeks for people to come out and weeks for people to come back. But in a few days, it was fixed. For the microwave, it was a quick fix 'cause the contractor had the part, so that was fixed in the same day that he came, which was very great and unusual.

American Home Shield has sent us an email so we can go and get a new dryer. But they also have an open claim for my air conditioning unit and it’s still broken. It’s been well over a year and a half already, and they're still messing around with this AC unit. They've sent someone out about five times and first, the holdup was the parts. Those took well over six months to get. Now, they've put in the new parts but it’s still not working. So I gotta call American Home Shield back and put another claim in with them. So, I had to refile it and it was past the 30 or 60-day thing. So, I had to do over again the claim and I have to do it online. The contractors were supposed to come within 24 business hours but it ended up being three days. I filed it on a Sunday and they came on Wednesday. The contractor was the same guy that came before and he was saying he didn't remember coming to our house. He texted me and told me that the plumbing issue was from a freeze on my pipe and they didn’t repair that. I asked him a question and he didn’t respond. He said that that was not part of my warranty.
Having a warranty, right now, is not really valuable. It's actually the third time they came. This guy that did the claim six months ago had to come twice ‘cause he didn’t do anything the first time. He came back and said he just had to hit the pump for it to come on, and apparently, that was what he did. But they did repair my washer about two months ago. That one, I didn’t have an issue with. If I knew what the problem was and I said something, maybe they wouldn’t have to send out a technician, but they don’t give you that option. The woman from American Home Shield was very good in helping me with the claim when my oven wasn't working properly. I don't like filing claims over the internet. I do it over the phone so I can get a better understanding. I would rather talk to somebody and make sure that I got it done and that they understood what the claim was about.
An odor was coming out of the oven and the man who came out said that the odor was not going away. He said that there was something wrong with the oven and that I had to let Home Shield know. I had to receive a new one so that was what Home Shield did. But the people they used to install the oven didn't have the right equipment to put it in right. It wasn't secured. So I had to hurry up and pay somebody out of my pocket to pull it back out and redo it. He had to put wood in it and modify it for me a little bit. Home Shield's contractor should have let me do that before they went on and put the oven in. But the issue was just the contractor. The Home Shield people themselves were good.

In the past 10 years, I've submitted claims to American Home Shield in several different ways. Most recently, when my refrigerator wasn't working, I did it online. We've had one bad experience but the claims process most recently was smooth. Also, the contractors they typically sent out are excellent.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield has been all right. I just do it over the internet, and they get back with me in a day or so. And then, they set up the appointment with whoever they’re sending out to my place. Our garbage disposal quit working and I liked the attitude of the guy who came to repair it. He came in, he knew exactly what he was doing, he answered any questions I had and then he was gone. I liked him better than the people who came in to look at my dishwasher.
The dishwasher still doesn’t really work. It doesn’t really clean the dishes. And that was my issue and what I told the contractor. They come in and told me it needs this little pump and a new front panel thing. But I think it really doesn’t have anything to do with washing the dishes. I just gave up because I’m not gonna pay again to have someone come out and look at it when it should've been done the first time. American Home Shield needs to pay attention to what I'm saying because I might have told them something over the phone, but when a guy comes out, he might have heard something totally different. They should be a little more on the same page. Overall, I haven’t had any real problems with them.

The dryer was broken and we had to go to laundromats to dry our clothes. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for repair. I did it online and navigating through the website was simple. As far as getting it done, it was a three day turnaround time. The interaction I had with the contractor was excellent and I highly recommend the tech that fixed the dryer. He was really nice and professional. He spotted the problem right away and fixed it quickly. The main belt broke and he showed it to me before he repaired it. Everything has been great since the repair and there have been no issues at all. My latest two issues had been resolved by American Home Shield and the two contractors that I've used on them did an excellent job. I'm very highly satisfied.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield when I had a problem with my dryer, and it was easy. Their contractor, Good Shepherd, was helpful. They explained the problem and was quick to fix it. There were some other things going on with the dryer that the technician said wouldn't be covered so, he asked me if I wanted to have that work done soon. He didn't just do it and then, he made me aware of what was covered and what was not. Everything was smooth and I was pleased with how everything went.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and I scheduled the appointment. The interaction with the claims rep was smooth. I was given a couple of options as to when to expect the contractor and I took what was available to coordinate with my work schedule. Initially, when I spoke to one of the people at American Home Shield, he said it was gonna take two appointments. So, when the plumber called me, I told him that it was an old garbage disposal and I'm sure they wouldn’t be able to fix it. I told them to have one on hand, just in case, because I didn't have time to take two days off or time off from work. So, he had one in his truck and was able to replace it. The plumber was great and the garbage disposal has been working perfectly since the repair. I was completely satisfied.

Something broke in the dishwasher and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. It was very easy navigating through the website. The contractor called, they came out, they ordered the part, they came out again, fixed it and everything has been fine. Since then, the dishwasher has been good. This warranty is very valuable. I could've bought the part for a lower price and fixed it myself but in general, some of these things are expensive and it’s good to have insurance. It was a very good experience with AHS.

Initially the contractor AHS sent for my washer came out and said my water valves were clogged, so he cleaned it out. But he was gonna order to have it replaced anyway, because I told him that I bought it used and it wasn’t a new washer. So he said, “Okay. I’m gonna order and have it replaced. And then I’ll let you know when the parts come in.” They were very unprofessional. They didn’t call me for nothing. I called them for everything.
The second time he came he said, “I don’t see anything that’s wrong with it.” I said, “Well then, why the heck did you order a part and say I needed a part, and then you didn’t do anything about it?” Then the dispatch lady was gone for a few days, so they hired a temp and then he said the temp didn’t know what she was doing because I was asking her, “Why did no one call me and say, ‘We ordered this part. This is what happened?’” She said she was out, so she doesn’t know that they hired a temp, and she didn’t know what she was doing.
And so I said, “You know what? I’ll call American Home Shield," and that I wanted a second opinion. The person that came out for the second opinion was the one who replaced not one but both of the valves. He was saying that the water was still trickling, so he didn’t understand why the guy didn’t replace it in the first place. He was nice and I didn’t have any problems.
He came back, and I was still having problems. He checked my dryer just to make sure that they did what they were supposed to do, or it was working the way it should be working. And then I’ve been having issues with the icemaker, so I was gonna call them back out again from the one that the guy initially replaced. It was just their demeanor and the way they handled business. And then they were like, “I’ll just send out a second opinion ‘cause I don’t know what’s wrong with your LG." I told them they didn’t deserve to get paid the second time the tech came out because he didn’t do anything. I wasn’t calling them anymore because I’m not gonna argue with the way they are handling their business. I prefer not to use them ever again.

They told us it would take one day but then said the part should be in a few days later. My daughter and her two little girls moved in with me and so, our laundry was piling up so much. I contacted the contractor and asked when it was gonna happen. They said the part was supposed to be in on the next Wednesday and then I forgot and it was a day or two after that the service guy was able to come in. When he showed up, we were expecting it to take a while, having to pull things out and do that, but he put the part in and he was here for just 30 minutes. It was quick, which was great. The washer is going good so far and I have no complaints.

I’ve had a few problems with a contractor being a little bit sloppy but as far as American Home Shield and their responsiveness to my claims, they have been good. The technician from Lake Appliances came out and fixed the oven then for a time, I had not used the oven but when I finally did put brownies in, I smelled something. When the brownie finished up, I opened the oven up and apparently, he had left his screwdriver in the bottom of the oven. It melted everywhere and it was a mess. It was just carelessness. But other than that, I haven’t had any problems. I called the company out because the oven started acting up again. The technician looked but he said there was nothing he could do until it acted up again.
When I called American Home Shield to renew my subscription, I wanted to make sure what appliances were covered. They told me the refrigerator was covered. But when I called about it a month or two later, they said it was not covered. So there was some hoopla about that and a little mix up about what was covered, and it was. But that was really the only problem I’ve had. As far as customer service goes, they are doing pretty well.

But then when I called back, nobody knew what we talked about and so we had to go over it again. For this claim, AHS sent out the contractor, Light It Up Electric, and that experience was good. The technicians were good and took care of the problem.
A long time ago, there was an issue with the stove. Every time we turned on the oven, it made an explosion, like it had a gas leak inside. I called AHS to submit a claim for the oven. In doing the repair, the technician went back and forth repeatedly. Then we had the technician's boss over and the boss said this and that. They ordered a part and then they put it on. It took the contractor four months to say that the oven was fixed. But then I came back from wherever I traveled to and it was not fixed. It was still making explosions. Last time, the contractor that AHS sent sold me and I bought a whole system for $5,600 on top of the cost that AHS covered, but that was okay and we took care of that.

Expected failure in avg 3 years - 1
Total paid in 3 years - $1,584
Average cost of failed part - $300
Cost per tech visit - $125
Cost per tech visit if you don’t have any warranty - $75 to $150
In my case - nothing was done to help me. Microwave failed - not covered $375. HVAC failed - Compressor $640. Freon gas - not covered $2,000. I cancelled the AHS warranty, put in $4500 and installed a new HVAC. Is the warranty worth it? No. Put the same amount of money into your bank account. On top of the annual fee (about $450 a year), we pay $75 for a visit if something breaks. We paid it once when the microwave had a small and inexpensive part break, and again when our washer stopped working correctly. So, we've paid about $600 for one year to have an inexpensive part replaced on the microwave. The minute an actual cost to the insurance company was on the line (the washer repair or replacement), a repair guy (the company chooses them, please note) shows up, listens to us describe the problem, and announces that we will need a new washer, that it's our fault it broke, and insurance won't cover it. He doesn't even look at the washer before he proclaims this. Then he looks at it for 2 minutes, stands up, and says we overload it. I say I've had small front-loading washers for years and that I'm always very careful to put in smaller loads.
Now he says Oh- it could be the loads are too SMALL then. What?! He writes up that it's our fault after telling us it's 90% likely it's overload (we ask, what is it the other 10% of the time? He doesn't answer), we know for a fact it isn't (a quick internet search verifies these washers break every 5-6 years like this with normal use) but of course the insurance calls after 3 days and lets us know they won't be covering anything.
I mean, I could have looked at it for 2 minutes for free and announced to my husband "Let's go pay for a new washer!" Pretty good waste of $75.... So we ask our options for a second opinion. Of course they choose the vendors. Of course you pay $75 AGAIN if they say the same thing. Just a huge waste of time and money. We could have purchased a new washer over the weekend for $750 and had this done with, saved our $600 we've spent with this company, and been much less irritated. I recommend that method for homeowners. Don't get sucked in, it's not even close to worth it.

5 months and counting. I have been a customer for 17 years. At the end of November 2018 I called in a repair request for my expensive water heater which was making a loud noise and vibrating off the wall. Over the next 4 months the selected servicing company has been to my house 7 times and has changed everything except my hot water heater. Two of the "fixes" I had to pay for (adding a flushing system to the unit that it did not come with.) Their final "fix" resulted in my having scalding hot water to ice cold water in a 4 minute shower. They finally gave up.
I am now 3 visits into a new plumber after asking for another opinion (that makes 10 inconveniences) who has made changes to correct what the first expert did but I still have the vibration and cold water/hot water (not having hot water was never the problem). I have even had the gas company come to make sure I was getting the right gas pressure and THEY told me that Tankless hot water heaters need a certified repairman. AHS even tried to tell me this was my fault for not flushing my system when it did not even have a flushing system installed. So all I want is a new heater cause something in their pre-sale advertising suggested that if they could not fix it they would replace it??? I thought that might be within the first visit or second not 10 trips to my house. By the way, I only pay $800 per year for the warranty coverage. Now what??? Today I can't safely use my hot water and there is no one at my house.
Good afternoon Kenneth,
Your patronage for over 17 years is greatly appreciated! I would be glad to speak with you in an effort to resolve your concerns with the water heater replacement.

I have had to claims with AHS and both have been disasters. In both cases the communication between AHS, the service provider and myself seem to be non-existent. When I talk to one I get a different story than I do from the other. Case 1: In July my AC went out. It took a week to get authorization completed and that only happened because I called both of them and was told they were waiting on the other. Once that was completed it still took several days for the part to ship, no effort on either party to speed up the process. Finally just over 2 weeks after my claim was opened they ended up replacing the entire unit due to age and the parts wouldn't fit.
Case 2 (1 month in and still pending): I have a 51 year old furnace, and the blower went out. I would assume since the furnace model was discontinued years ago they would just replace it, but they insist on attempt a fix, fine ok. First they ship out the wrong part, (that was 2 weeks ago). Currently I have no idea what the status is, the service provider is waiting on a part that will come sometime. AHS says they sent the part but the delivery date keeps changing but is a week or more away. They refuse to let me speak to the parts department to figure out what's going on or even give me the tracking number so I can verify myself. So I have no idea what is being delivered or when it will be arriving.
What irritates me the most is that this unit is 51 years old. There is a very high chance that in the end the part won't even work and they will end up replacing it anyway, making this whole thing a waste of everyone's time. Meanwhile, when my unit does turn on I get to enjoy the screeching sound that rivals 100 piglets and babies having a screaming match while bystanders attempt to mask the sound by scraping nails on a chalkboard. If I had the money to replace the unit myself I would cancel the request, close my account and pay for it myself. However, I can't afford that, which is why I paid for this service in the first place.
Their customer service reps claim they can't do anything and won't pass me on to anyone else. I have to basically manage these requests myself or I would still probably be waiting for my A/C (it's now April). My contract expires next month and WHENEVER this fiasco ends with my furnace I will 1000% be dropping AHS and staying as far away from them as I can. I cannot stress enough that I believe this falls on AHS, I trust the service provider. AHS is garbage and a terrible company.

AHS sent out their contractor, Quantum Mechanical to analyze the problem and was very professional. Assuming AHS was going to be just as professional in providing the needed repairs was completely wrong. AHS only provided a "trailer house" quality air handler and I had to pay for its installation ($1,250). To upgrade to a quality air handler, I had to an additional $574. Not only have I paid AHS over $11,000 over the years for not having to do any repairs to date, I am having to pay an additional $1,824 to replace my 33 year old air handler with a quality unit. Placed an order for repair of a toilet and 2 faucets on Feb 13, 2019. Was contacted within a few days and an appointment was made with All hour Emergency Plumber. This is what has happened since: 2/21 - Repair person arrived and fixed toilet. A few hours later, the toilet was not working. Was able to get repair person back at end of day and toilet was again fixed. Was told that parts for the faucet had to be ordered. He said, he'd be back in 10 days.
3/4 - Never received a call so I called plumbing company. Was told that part was due on 3/5. 3/8 - Never received a call so I called plumbing company. They said I was #1 on their list of call backs and that they'd call me first thing in the morning. 3/9 - No call from plumbing company. I called them at 4p; was placed on hold; and then was disconnected. 3/11 - Called plumbing company at 9:11A and was on hold until 9:55A. Appointment was made for 3/14, between noon and 5p.
3/14 - Plumbing company was a no call/no show. I called plumbing company and they said they had no record of an appointment to my home. They said they'd call first thing in the morning (See 3/9 results). 3/15 - No call from plumbing company. I was put on hold from 4:36p until 4:54p and again I was disconnected. 3/18 - Set appointment for 3/19 between noon and 5p. 3/19 - Plumber fixed faucet but in the process broke a piece off of the faucet. He said he'd order a part and should be back within the week.
Today is April 15, 2019, and the plumbing company has never called me back on status of faucet. I've called them numerous times and have been told numerous times, that part is being ordered and they will get back to me soon. Today I called American Home Shield and spoke to a customer representative. They called the plumber and told me that they would be calling me within the next 24 hours to set up an appointment. I have no idea if the part was ever ordered and suspect that when the plumber comes out we'll start the whole process again. To be continued. Question to American Home Shield - Why not send a survey to customers and ask them how their experience has been with the company who was taking care of their repair?

The oven on my 20-year-old stove stopped working and I put in a request for assistance to American Home Shield. Submitting the claim wasn’t an issue but I was provided the name of the company that was gonna come out and I couldn’t contact them by calling. I couldn’t leave a message as well and I wanted to give them updated information about the age of my stove and provide a serial number, which at the time I submitted the claim, I did not have. That was a little bit of hiccup and I ended up calling AHS. I talked to someone from the Arizona office and it took a week to get someone out here. But that was okay in this instance. The contractor was excellent. He was very professional, on-time, courteous and experienced. He had the parts and fixed it. It was a good experience. I would recommend this company and this particular individual to others.
In an incident involving a plumber, the name of the company was given but they were not responsive. I called AHS three times and I told them that I needed a plumber. I told them that I needed to talk to a manager because this was unacceptable. I asked them if there was some leeway where if they don’t have a company that could come out, I could get an authorization to go find my own plumber and they could reimburse me. So, that was what we have done and I'm waiting for my reimbursement. I don't appreciate that we have to pay the $75 service fee upfront. That was something that has changed because I have not filed a claim in three years. When I did that with the stove, I had to pay upfront. I don't have a problem paying the $75 to the person who comes to my house. So, I don't know why that was changed, but I'm not a fan of that process.
I’ve been with AHS for 19 years and for the most part, I’ve been satisfied. I've heard some of my friends and coworkers say that they don’t know how I could stand AHS but I've recommended it to family and friends. I've done some price comparison since they provide the service comparable to other companies for the money and since I have been a customer for some time. I'm a loyal person as long as I get good service.

I really like Home Shield, and I have told my sisters, my friends and my family about them. Initially, I looked up reviews on them. I checked Better Business Bureau and researched, and I thought that they seemed to be the best ones to go with. It's been right out a year and so far, they've worked out really great for us, for anything we’ve called them for. When we have claims, I would put in the order and the contractor is supposed to get ahold of me or I can call them. They send me a phone number and then we schedule a time. Then they'd come and fix the problem. Most recently, we had two things happen at the same time. There was a problem with the pipe that comes from the floor to the toilet and it was leaking. Then our icemaker quit and at the same time, my dishwasher started leaking water. The same people came for the icemaker and the dishwasher, but somebody different came for the toilet.
I think it was even the owner of Always There Appliance Repair who came out for the icemaker and the dishwasher. They had scheduled somebody but he had an accident on site so a different person came out. The owner did a great job. He knew what was wrong with both things and he ordered the parts. The only glitch was that he couldn't order the parts and get it himself. We had to wait for American Home Shield to order the parts so it took a little longer to get things. It took a little over a week for the dishwasher to be repaired and when it wasn’t working, I washed dishes by hand. But as soon as the contractor got the things, somebody else came and put them in. It was in and out. They were professional and on time. They knew what they were doing, and they did a great job.
