My son-in-law paid the annual bill for the contract with AHS and he also pre-paid the $75 AC tune-up. We found out it was only for one unit. I’m the mother-in-law, living in the house and when I called to set the appointment up, I said, “I’m going to give you my charge card for the second unit so you can do them both at the same time.” But when they got here, they only had $175 listed, not the one that was pre-paid at the time the annual statement came up. For some reason, they’ve never credited the original 75.

My son-in-law who owns the house and daughter are in the military, so they’re away from the house and he put me listed on the contract so that if I had a problem and needed to call AHS we could connect back and forth. I wanna make sure that this isn’t messing things up somehow. But that’s my only problem with American Home Shield in the four years I've had them and the homeowner is apparently on top of this.

Our call to a company required replacement of a pressure backup boiler to the hot water heater. The boiler was leaning on the wall so a hole in the wall had to be made in order to access it. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and a guy came in and fixed the drywall. Generally, I’m satisfied with AHS' service. The only criticism I have is that sometimes when submitting a claim to AHS, the waiting for a response to a call is 10 or more minutes. This varies. But when I get to actually contact somebody from there, they are efficient. They assign a contractor in the area. Usually, I get a call within several hours to schedule an appointment. This is the norm.

Now, I have an open issue where we have a malfunctioning sink cap in one of the bathrooms. The contractor that AHS gave visited that about three weeks ago. He did not have a replacement part in his van so he placed an order. I called them a couple of days ago telling them it’s almost two weeks now. They said, “It should be there shortly.” But this is quite a lengthy period of waiting time.

My garage door stopped working back in the winter time. They would try to open up or would be halfway down and then stop and then go back up a little bit and stop. I ended up having to disconnect them. What I have are older, 15-year old garage doors and I had the same problem of them not working last year, and AHS sent someone out to fit some stuff on them. They came out again this time and checked everything. They ended up determining the units needed to be changed out.

I called to order in American Home Shield and within an hour, the technicians were calling me and setting everything up. I liked how responsive they were and everything they said were on the money. The contractors put some new units -- something that worked great. They were punctual and everything was smooth. It was a dad and a son that did that work, and they were very professional. They said it was gonna take about three hours, and it probably took about two and a half to three hours for them to get it completed. They cleaned up after themselves and were very respectful. I was very pleased with those guys.

Also submitting a claim was a little bit easier because sometimes when you call, there's an extended wait on the phone. But this time, it went right on through and the rep that I spoke to was very friendly. It was a very quick process too. Everybody is very professional and polite on both sides from American Home Shield plus the actual contractors. I talk to people about American Home Shield all the time because it's been very beneficial to me. I've always been satisfied with it.

Very unhappy with the service that I have received since signing up. I read the reviews before I chose a company to sign my 5 properties up. However, I have not received this type of service. It seems like the representatives look for reasons on why they won't help you. I've been paying my premiums and my deductibles but still have had to have covered services pay for out of my own pockets. I'm definitely doing research to switch companies ASAP!

My account was set up online with annual payment, however, my bank saw it a fraud hit. When AMS called, during the conversation, I was told that a monthly payment option was available if I preferred (this option is not provided as an option online). I chose that one and noted that since it would be monthly billing, I gave them a debit card for the new billing contract information. AMS charged my debit card monthly and then and two days later, charged my debit card for the annual fee without authorization. When I called to have them correct the error, at first they said the error was theirs and then tried to blame me for the error. They said it would be 3-5 days to put the cash back into my checking account.

I asked for a supervisor and eventually one came on and said it would be two days. Two days later I called and they said 3-5 days again. I once again asked for a supervisor and they said he was too busy. Granted, I did ask for a supervisor that spoke English as a first language because every person except the person that took my billing information originally struggled with the English language. I was on hold for 25 minutes and eventually had to call back. Issue is still unresolved. When trying to call back, it recorded operation unsuccessful.

The hot water heater was leaking everywhere. I called AHS to file a claim because of the urgency of it. I've heard of the electrical aspect exploding and things like that. The process was easy because it was late in the evening. But there were times where filing a claim with AHS by phone takes an hour's wait or it's impossible to get through on the customer service line. At one point, I was even considering researching another home warranty company because of the length of time to get through. Sometimes, it'd also be hard to put into words what I was doing or there'd be multiple repairs that I needed done and that didn't make it easy to navigate their website.

Other than that, the contractor who came out for our hot water heater was Plumbing Repairs ASAP and their tech was excellent. But it was communicated that my claim was urgent and that it'd be escalated because of the hot water heater. Unfortunately, that did not make it to the plumber and when I reached out to the plumber the next day, he said it wasn't in the notes. So I had to call back American Home Shield for them to escalate it up to him. In the end, the tech fixed the problem and everything's been great since then. He took care of it right away though he had to go buy a part and there was an expense on our end. But we got it cleared and I paid it.

They do high-quality work too. One time, the microwave started arcing. The spark was coming out when I tried to use it. The tech from GE appliances came through, checked it and told me that it would have to be replaced. Everything has been fine since.

It’s a switch that switches multiple lights on at the same time, so I was kinda concerned that it would be a hazard. I called the American Home Shield phone number and they called me back, and then they told me the name of the company that will be contacting me. I got emails with the name of the company and then I would coordinate with them to schedule the time. The contractor was very, very professional, and very courteous. It was definitely a good service. I’ve been with American Home Shield from 2015 to 2018 and then, went through a transition. The service was great and I didn't have any issues with getting things I needed fixed so, I just restarted again. Plus, the technicians have been very professional. The other day, I called in a claim to American Home Shield for my dishwasher. It was leaking and a little later on that day, I realized my microwave wasn't working either. So, I called back and asked the agent to include my microwave into the work order. She said okay and that there was no problem. However, when the guy came out, he only fixed the dishwasher. I asked him about the microwave and he said he tried to fix it. I don't know what his problem was and if it was too complicated for him. He didn't do any diagnosis on the microwave because he couldn't figure out how to work it, after me, even showing him.

I called the AHS agent and told her that the guy fixed the dishwasher but didn’t attempt to fix the microwave. I also told her that I didn’t want to pay another service if I called it in and it was supposed to be included. I wasn't charged another service fee and they are sending another service technician out to fix the microwave. When I was with them at first, we would call in a service order and then find our own technician. It saves us time and having to find somebody in order to come and fix things. Now that AHS does it, it took several times for them to find a technician for me. Still, AHS has been great and the service has been excellent.

The furnace downstairs wouldn’t kick on and that was the first time I ever dealt with American Home Shield. I called up there and they took care of it. The next day, I got these guys from Royal AC out. The funny thing about it is that the Royal Air people were the ones who actually told me about American Home Shield. I told them I was gonna start buying a house and the guy came out said they did work for American Home Shield and I would need to get that. Those guys were great. They were totally killer. But with the second guy American Home Shield sent out, I felt like he came in too quick and said the work was not covered. That one wasn’t a good experience.

This is an older house. It was built in like 1978 and when we moved in here, my wife would take the kids to bathe upstairs. On the first day, there was no problem. But on the second day, the water in the tub wasn’t draining all the way. It would slowly drain. Then on the third day, it would be up to their ankles while they were still taking a bath. The next day, water actually started coming out of the toilet. So I called American Home Shield because they took care of the AC problem so good and I didn’t know who else to call. They sent me a plumber out here but the first thing he told me was that it was not covered.

I asked him what was going on and he said that he would have to pull the toilet off to access the drain and flush it out. He said that I didn't have a clean-out and that the work was not gonna be covered. So he called American Home Shield up and then he came back in and repeated that the work was not gonna be covered. His cost was gonna be $475 to remove that toilet and flush it. American Home Shield also called me and said they were not gonna be able to cover but that the guy had said he was gonna give me this deal. I trusted American Home Shield so I went ahead and did it. He flushed a line but it wound up that there was a root collapsed.

He told me that there was a broken line there, 4.5 deep. He said that if I could get to the line, it might be cheaper but the guy gave me a $2600 estimate. The thing got crazy really quick. I don’t make $2000 in a day so I took off of work and started digging this hole. In the first 18 inches of digging a hole, it was easy. But after about two feet, it started turning into hard work. All I could hear was my sister in my head, telling me that I had to get a second opinion.

I called up another place and the guy came out. They found the clean-out, which the other guy said I didn't have, on the side of my house. They said they could come in right through there and they didn't even have to take the toilet off. One guy asked me what the other guy quoted me at and when I said $2600 or $2800, they couldn't believe it. I felt dumb because I didn't know better. These guys said they could do it for $1400 and they did the same work the other guy did. If it would have been a couple hundred dollars difference, I would have understood. Some people are proud of their work. But that was a big difference. That’s a used car right there.

These second guys also said that the toilet wasn’t actually installed properly. I had had the other guy install that before I realized there was a bigger problem. I asked him if he thought I could just go buy a brand new toilet. It's an older house and I wanted to go ahead and upgrade the toilet. Of course, he told me he could give me a toilet. He installed it but his prices were higher than if I had just gone down the street and got a toilet. We also never turned the water on because luckily, I didn't have the $2800 to pay him to finish the job. When these second guys completed the job, the toilet had a leak on it. I called the first guy back and he said he could come back out here and do it. But at that time, I had a bad taste in my mouth with him.

I was trusting American Home Shield because I figured they used contractors all the time. I also understand that for what I paid and for what American Home Shield does, they can’t pay for everything. But I didn't get a good feeling about it. I felt like I should’ve gotten a second opinion. But I figured they would know who they were sending out. Nonetheless, I would recommend them.

The appliances in the house are very old and the washer didn’t work. The contractor got their $75 and was hell-bent on fixing it so I wouldn’t get a new one but the washer's about older than I am. My experience with American Home Shield was great and I'm very satisfied. When I submit a claim, I usually wait a long time but they got a hold of me real quick this time and I was really impressed. I talked to a representative, and she told me what it was gonna cost and made it possible. She said that I didn’t have to worry about anything and she charged my account, and I didn't have to produce any more credit cards ‘cause she got it on record. I had to get my account number and I didn't have it. She told me where to look for one, and I found it and gave it to her. She was real helpful and understanding about my situation. I explained to her that I normally would have done that myself, but in my old age, I am not able to get down like I used to.

With the timeframe in which AHS said A1 Plumbing was coming, the contractor came before that which was real good. They came the first time and repaired mine the first time, but for some reason, it was loose and rocking. So, the second time the tech came back, he fixed it where it would quit rocking. He was real knowledgeable and professional. He explained to my wife why he was doing what he was doing, and the best of what he could do right then and there to fix it. I have some other things that I need fixing, and I told him I’m gonna call back whenever I give my money up for my deductible. Now the plumbing has been operating real good. It's my wife’s restroom and it has made things better for me.

I like American Home Shield. The dishwasher is working now but I was disappointed with the way that the whole service thing went. We called on a Thursday and the contractor was closed on Friday afternoon. And then they didn’t get back with us until Monday, and then they scheduled an appointment on Wednesday. Instead of being able to call up and get somebody out right away, which is what we thought would happen, the contractor didn’t get there until a week later. Our dishwasher was out for a week. We didn’t get a timely service. That was not acceptable to us because we paid online when we first made the claim, we paid $75, and then it seemed like we’ll get around to it now that we have the money. If that is how it’s gonna be if we’re gonna make a claim that takes a week to solve it, then we’re with the wrong company.

The tech did okay as far as fixing the dishwasher. We’ve had problems with the board and it’s working now. We thought it was gonna need a new board because it wasn’t working right when you pushed the buttons. But the tech was able to do something with it. Some kind of wire was loose and the tech soldered it in place. He was able to get it to where the dishwasher is working again.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for our pool. The hot tub or the Jacuzzi area is integrated into one system and the water was draining out, not completely but draining out of the hot tub. And a couple of seals or o-rings came out. The first pool company that was put on our work order came out, replaced the item but that didn’t work. He came out again, replaced another item, but that didn’t work either. Another company came out, pointed out what he saw and what he was gonna do, and explained to me the situation. So, he went ahead and did what he had to do.

Unfortunately, the water went down again. At the time, I saw a small leak over on one of the other pieces that the first guy had repaired. So, my wife called me and told me that the guy was gonna come back out and take a look at it again and he did. He had to repair a piece that the first guy evidently didn’t see. And that was why his first job didn’t let the water stay up. He told me later that he didn’t even think about checking the first guy’s work. He just assumed that the guy’s work was correct. So far, everything is working fine now. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience but I will give kudos to the second technician that came out. He was top-notch. He was very thorough and repaired something that the first technician thought that he had repaired. We’ve had AHS ever since we moved in to this house and we’ve been somewhat pleased with them. On a couple of occasions, the vendor sent by American Home Shield did not do the work because it was cancelled. However, my card got charged anyway. When I call and tell AHS that the work was not done, it is my word against the vendors. The rep would not believe me and would need to talk to the vendor to see if they did the work. I would ask whether the vendor submit any paperwork to show that they did the work but then the rep would say that there isn't any paperwork in their system. That should prove to AHS that the vendor did not do the work. Instead, it took going back and forth with AHS to get credited for the charge.

AHS should be careful with the vendors that they have. They're crooked and they're there for the money. They then file false claims and take advantage of their customers. They say something needs to be done that is not covered by AHS. That occurred when there was something wrong with my air conditioner. A gentleman went and he assessed my AC. My house is rented out and I have tenants living there. He was there all of five minutes and my renters told me that he didn't look at anything. Instead, he called me back and told me that a part of my system had to be replaced. He said I needed eight pounds worth of coolant. I almost authorized him to fix it 'cause of course, I didn't know what was going on. However, someone else recommended that I go have someone else go out there and give me a second opinion. So, I found another air conditioner person to go out and the problem was a capacitor that had blown. That was nowhere near the eight pounds that the first vendor I said I needed to put in.

Still one time, my tenant called me and told me that something through the garage door opener was not working. They must've disabled it because it wasn't going up or down. I told them to take the garage door and pull it all the way up to see if it will hook with the little motor parts at the top. This will let them see if it can go up and down. They did that and the garage door itself reset and started going up and down. But then it wouldn't go all the way down. It would only go part of the way and go right back up again.

Usually, I would call the problem in to American Home Shield but then when I do that, I'm holding on for forever and a day before someone takes my call. This time around, I decided to go online. I was having problems so I used the chat feature and their rep assisted me that way. 495 Garage Door called me a day or two later and the lady from there said that they had been trying to contact my tenant. I had given them the tenant's number so that they can coordinate entry into the house but then the lady from 495 said that the tenant did not return her call. I reached out to my tenant to contact the vendor and thereafter an appointment was made immediately.

The gentleman from 495 called me and told me what the problem was. He said that based on American Home Shield policy, the repair would be to the garage door opener itself. However, since it's not a repair to the opener but to the door, it would not be covered by the warranty. One of the springs on the door was broken and I was gonna have to pay for the spring being repaired. He charged $125 for the spring itself and then $160 for the labor that didn't even take an hour. It was expensive but then perhaps it was because he came out on a Sunday. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend AHS to a friend.

It might have cost me less without the warranty. Other than that, I’ve told tons of people about American Home Shield.

Our air conditioning was blowing hot air. I called it in and it was a very simple process with American Home Shield. The contractor was excellent. He was super professional and incredibly knowledgeable. As a matter of fact, he was on the phone with two other technicians and was walking them through stuff as he was here. It took about 20 minutes and he found one wire that had been wrongly connected. He fixed it and our AC is now working great. We're new homeowners and it's nice to have that peace of mind knowing you have a warranty for a year. AHS has been great so far.

We purchased a new home and an American Home Shield warranty was one of the things that was included as part of the purchase negotiation. It was useful in that the dishwasher failed in the first few months and then, the heating unit failed. We paid the appropriate co-pay, but to just have it directed to a provider in the area because we didn't know any. Generally, using the website is fine. It doesn't necessarily get down to finding an explanation of what the problem is as it might, but AHS could never come up with something that would be appropriate for all situations. My interactions with the technicians have been very good.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone for a replacement of dishwasher racks. Their claim process was fine. I was given a response time to be contacted by the contractor within 24 hours and he did. He was fine, very easy to talk to and he seemed to know what he was doing. He's been out to my house a couple times because the shipment of the racks came in two parts. Neither one of us realized that one box only had one rack in it instead of two. So, the one was backordered from the company.

So far, everything is perfect. I just find it difficult to get a hold of somebody. Nonetheless, I eventually did speak with somebody. It's just hard to get through. The very, very, very first time I tried when I was initiating this whole claim, I was on hold for 45 minutes. And I eventually hung up. I was doing other things, but my phone was on hold. But that part has gotten better. The last time I called to reschedule something because we had just a little issue with the rack, it was much easier to get through. Bottom line, I prefer to speak with somebody rather than initiate a claim online.

I have two warranties with AHS for my rental properties. One in Texas and one in North Carolina. I was trying to get them umbrellaed, but because they were in different states, they wouldn't allow me to do that. I think they do umbrellas, but when I added the second warranty, it was after the time I could do it. It's no big deal though.

When I had a garage door issue, I submitted a claim with AHS on the phone and the tech came out quickly. He was also pretty excellent and thorough. I set up an appointment with him because Home Shield gave me the info on who was coming. So, I called him directly and told him my tenant's information and the time they would be available. Then they called him directly and set up a time where they could link up and it worked out well.

But initially, I didn't pay for the repair because I was waiting on parts, which they had to replace. But when I checked online, it was saying that I owed AHS for that and my previous claim on the dishwasher which I already paid. I had to call twice to get that clarified. I told them that I paid for the bill on the dishwasher but nobody was taking it off my account. They said that it'd take so many business days and I told them that I got that. But when they sent me a bill, they were still telling me I owed them for two claims. I think they put the notes in about my payment on the dishwasher claim but they did not follow up and take it off in a timely manner. So, I was a little upset about that. In the end, I paid for the garage door repair so, I got no other bill.

Aside from that, I also had an issue in trying to pay for stuff. They're saying something about the security feature that you can't keep whatever is on file and use it. Even though it says it's on file, you still have to call. If you call, you have to give the whole credit card number and all that. But I don't understand the point of paying it online if you have to keep doing all that crap.

I also had a claim for my refrigerator and I told Home Shield that the guy they sent went out there without calling ahead of time to let my tenants know that he was on his way, so they could be home. Even though it was a Friday, it didn't mean that they didn't have nothing else to do but sit around and wait for him. He said that when he went to the house, he saw a vehicle but nobody answered the door. So he should have called first. He did that three times and it took him a couple of times to get out there and do what he had to get done. After that, I also had an issue with the icemaker and the same contractor had to come back out. But I never went back to AHS for that because the whole refrigerator had to be replaced. I decided to just wait for the replacement because I didn't want the contractor to do it.

Also, I called the same contractor directly for an estimate on how much it would be for the icemaker if I would have it repair without Home Shield and he didn't do that. All in all, they were not good. They also fixed the dishwasher but they weren't friendly as far as telling my tenant that they were coming out. They just came out when they thought they were gonna come out and I didn't like that at all. Other than that, AHS has been great and I have no problem with them. But sometimes you need to be more attentive when you're paying bills. If you don't pay attention, you'll be paying twice for the same thing.

Our water heater went out a week ago and we still do not know when it will be replaced. Also, we were told that because of “modifications” which are apparently not covered, we will have to pay $495 on top of our $125 service fee. We have had other items fixed: stove, dishwasher, garbage disposal. Each time, the process has taken several days. There is the illusion of speed because you get a text immediately when you request service and a service technician comes within 24-48 hours but they almost never are able to fix the problem right away. They have to get approval from American Home Shield to purchase any parts and make any repairs so this slows down the whole process. We won’t be renewing our contract.

I have had American Home Shield for two years now. I have made two claims in two years one for my doorbell and one for my ice maker. It seems according to the contract that it is covered but when the technician comes out and they call for authorization nothing is covered. I have read all my contract and all exclusions in it and nowhere does it state that a water valve is not covered. It clearly states all parts are covered for fridge and ice maker... As for my doorbell they charged me a service call and said again wiring is not covered. Again the contract clearly state that it is covered. When you call and ask to speak to someone they give you the runaround and never return calls when you ask to speak to a supervisor...

CONTRACTOR GRADE REPLACEMENTS - We had a slow drip from the kitchen faucet. American Home Shield (AHS) sent a plumber out to check it out and take pictures ($75 charge). Reported to AHS that we needed a new faucet. Plumbing contractor ordered the part and returned 3 days later. The contractor installed a CONTRACTOR grade faucet (cheapest possible).

We had a serious problem that our new faucet was 1/3 the cost of the original and had plastic handles. We called AHS immediately to complain. We were told "sorry that your unhappy and we will be glad to replace it. The contractor came back out just to tell us that AHS won't replace it and that contractor grade is all they pay for.

Being very confused, we called AHS again. After 3 calls, 2 disconnects and 1hr and 15 min wait time, we were finally told that there would be another $75 charge for the contractor to come back out to replace a faucet (that we would purchase). It funny, my sister-in-law had the same leak from a high end brand and they replaced it with a better model. We don't want better... just the same type/model. Would have spent less getting a more expensive faucet and calling the contractor directly. We are going to cut out the middle man (AHS).

I bought an older home in January and the AHS website says, "No age limit on appliances or systems. Covered items in good working order are eligible for plan protection REGARDLESS OF AGE OR APPEARANCE." I specifically told the sales lady that I had bought an older home and she affirmed that even older appliances will be covered. The contract even states that it covers: "malfunctions of covered items PRIOR TO and during contract term." Contract goes on to say it covers insufficient maintenance, rust, corrosion, or sediment." Also covers: "UNDETECTABLE PRE-EXISTING conditions... that could not have been detected by a VISUAL inspection." I felt comfortable with those terms so I ordered the warranty in February.

In April the furnace had an issue and was sending dusty, smokey air through the house. I called AHS and they didn't have an HVAC contractor in my area and said they had up to 48 hours to find someone. I said I couldn't live in the smokey air for 48 hours. It stunk and I needed someone right away. I had a client of mine that did HVAC and asked if we could just use him because he could come right away. They said no.

So I waited a few hours and decided the smoke was just too much. So I ended up cancelling my request and hired someone myself to have it taken care of right away. The person I hired said he'd worked with AHS in the past and they are ridiculous. They won't let them use their own parts--they send them from their own warehouse and it takes time and he had a customer once who had to wait an entire month in the hot summer without AC because of that. Hearing this made me weary of the service I had signed up for, but I decided to keep it still.

A little while later the sink started leaking in the kitchen. When I called the plumber assigned to my case he said he won't do the repair unless I get a pre-authorization from AHS for me to pay them and they reimburse me because they nickel and dime contractors and tell them what they can charge, not what the contractor regularly charges. He said it takes months to get paid from AHS and it's not enough. They pay way less for everything. I asked AHS if I could have authorization to hire him and pay him myself and they said no. They called him while I was on the line and that contractor pulled his agreement with them. He said it wasn't worth working with them. This was my second bad experience with them.

AHS then said that since they no longer had someone in my area, I was free to find my own plumber. I had one come and assess the issue. He told AHS it would be about $1,000 to repair because once he cut into the flooring he found that the pipes were old and corrosion on the old galvanized pipes had started to eat through the pipes and that's why it was leaking. It was in the kitchen, but the leak was starting to affect the basement (luckily in a cemented furnace room). AHS denied the service request based on the fact that it was a pre-existing condition. The contract clearly states that pre-existing is covered as long as it couldn't have been detected by a visual inspection. When we bought the home four months prior there was no visual problems. How was I supposed to know it had galvanized pipes in between the floors that would start leaking.

When I called AHS they said that "the house wouldn't have passed inspection. The damage had started before our contract." We had an appraisal and due-diligence done before we bought the house, but AHS refused to cover anything and said it was my fault. So I cancelled the contract. The plumber said he had to call in three times to even get his bid in. After being on hold for over an hour the first two times he hung up. He wasn't being paid to make phone calls and be on hold. I don't blame him.

Bottom line: their sales team is great. They'll tell you what you want to hear. Their contract looks good. But when it comes down to it and you need a repair done, they use loopholes to get out of everything. In my opinion they were under breach of contract to not accept my request when it was clearly an undetectable pre-existing condition that could not be visually seen. But in their opinion "undetectable" means you should pull up the floors and check inside the walls before calling it visually undetectable. Also, all three contractors involved in my cases hated AHS and the way they were treated by them. I don't know how they keep contractors signed with them after all 3 for 3 of mine were treated poorly.

To top it all off, they still charged me the $100 service fee even though they didn't end up paying for anything and didn't even find their own contractors to do the work. That was supposed to be a major selling point. "Don't waste time finding contractors. We'll find them for you." I seriously can't find one nice thing to say about them. Their service was a waste of time and money.

They take your money up front, and then make it impossible down the road. They sent out a plumber, who over-diagnosed my issue to get my claim denied by home warranty. I know this because they looked at the issue for less than 5 minutes (while holding their clipboard the whole time) and told me I had a break in my pipe, which was not covered (for some workaround reason), but I sensed something fishy so I got another plumber out there on my own dime. The pipes were fine, it just needed a routine cleaning. I contacted AHS to explain the issue and they refused to fund my $75 service fee charge, because the plumber did come out. Yeah, they came out - just to try to extort money out of me. I am a first time homebuyer and was convinced to purchase this by my realtor. That was a BIG mistake. Waste of money.

The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was for some electrical stuff that was identified when we bought the house. Apparently, it had been fixed but then it stopped working again. It was an electrical issue where there was a water feature on the pool that wasn't working initially. It worked during the final walk-through, however, it hasn't worked since. The heat to the pool and hot tub were working, then those stopped, yet the jets and all the water pumps are all working. I phoned American Home Shield and they sent a guy out. First, he said the pump was bad or there was something wrong with the pump capacitor. He said that it's a water feature, so it's not covered by the warranty. He did as much to look at the pump and said that I probably had to replace it.

We looked inside the heater and we found that a rodent had chewed some wires. He said that he didn't have wire with him which I thought was interesting since he was out for an electrical issue to begin with. He didn't have the right wire for that and there was a plastic piece that he said he would have to try and get. He said that it wasn't covered by my warranty because it was caused by a rodent. I asked what it was gonna take to get it fixed on the spot. I asked if I should pay his company and he said he would look at what the parts were and that he would get back to me and let me know. However, he hasn't gotten back to me yet. That was two days ago that I haven't heard back from them on what it would be. In the fine print, it has all those things about AHS covering my spa and pool, but only certain parts of it.

Another time, I had a previous claim for the washer and the dryer. We had the same company both times and they sent out a guy who looked at the washer and had to order a part. It was two weeks to get the part and I am not sure why it took so long. It was a common part, but he got it fixed and running and there has been no problem since. He came out on the dryer and started to disassemble and found that somehow, something had got in there and blocked. He removed it and fixed it on the spot, so it was fine. AHS followed up to make sure that things were done and were very quick to respond.

With the one company that came to do the heater, the tech was okay, but their company does this more on a cost basis than a hey-we're-really-experienced basis. He is learning as he goes and figures it out. He has some experience, then he works through the problem. In that regard, he was fine, but when he came in it was like, "Okay, let's see what we can figure out," which he did. They are providing a service, but if I wanted something top of the line, I might go elsewhere. I am not happy with the fact that something isn't covered, but I understand that it is the way it is, so I can't really have a complaint about it.

Nevertheless, AHS has been prompt in setting up the people. They've followed up to make sure things are done and they had the exclusions listed. In that sense, they are doing a lot of what I would hope they would do as a company. I would recommend that people consider AHS if they were buying home insurance when they get a home, but I would say that there are limitations to it as well.

I called in a claim for my broken garbage disposal and everything worked smoothly with the claims representative. I was given 72 hours to expect the contractor out and it wasn’t an emergency so it didn't have to be done that day. Then, Aladdin’s Plumbing came out and they were perfect. They came on the first part of their window, and were in and out of here in an hour. A new garbage disposal was put in and it works fine. I was very pleased.

The furnace was not working and we had no heat. American Home Shield called me within an hour of my filing the claim and told me that the contractor, Butler M-K Heating & Cooling, would be there two days later. The tech showed up five minutes before the scheduled time. He was very polite and he introduced himself. He was very professional and showed me the paperwork with my name and the contract information on it. He told me what he did to rectify the situation. He said that I needed two things for the furnace to work and one of them was a part that was defective and no longer working. So, he replaced that part which he had in his truck. He got to work, did the job, and fixed the issue within 30 minutes.

Everything is back to normal and the furnace has been working great since the tech has been out. We have heat and a happy 14-year old child. This was our second experience with AHS. We had a contract with AHS three years ago, but our experience with them then was horrible so we canceled it. Then I thought I would give them another chance. So far, we've had a service call and our experience with them has been very good. I would recommend AHS.

We called American Home Shield for the air conditioning check and service offer but the first company that they called was no longer in business. Within the 24-hour period, nobody had called so I called AHS back. Then, we immediately heard back from the other tech that AHS contracted. He came exactly when he said he would and he was very nice. Everything was taken care of. We’ve always had prompt service from American Home Shield. When we had claims before, the techs that came out have always been good. I’m ever so grateful that when I call, they take care of it. In fact, we had referred older people like ourselves to AHS. We told them that AHS would take care of things for them. They don’t have to lay on the floor and work over their head like they used to.

Initially, I was given a notice that the company received the request and they’d be reaching out. I was given a timeframe that was within 24 hours. The technician who came was great, friendly, and helpful. The issue was fixed and that allowed us to function normally. The home warranty we have is very valuable because it has allowed us to get things fixed and feel confident that we’re not gonna have any big issues unresolved.

I file my claims online with American Home Shield and the process is easy. With regard to some of the repair requests, though, they’re a little vague. For example, if I have a plumbing issue, it’s hard to elaborate on the issue more because the website has a limited availability of options to pick from. But other than that, the turnaround time is normally quick. Unless it’s on a Saturday, then I don’t tend to hear from somebody until Monday. Recently, we were doing an AC tune-up and the contractors that AHS sent were wonderful. They got right out, got the job done and it was simple.

Submitting a claim through American Home Shield is easy and I do it online. In the past, I've had some very good contractors, but lately, they seem to be not and they seem to be sending out subcontractors. On April 12th, we have put a claim for our disposal to be replaced. The contractor showed up and they said they had to order it. I waited for five days, and then I called the contractor. They said they were waiting for American Home Shield to okay it. I called American Home Shield and I got someone who didn't speak English very well and it was very hard to communicate. They said they would work on it. That was last Thursday and the disposal is still not here. I suggest that AHS improve the contractor fees.

There was a leak coming from the pipe leading to my toilet, and it was dripping and causing a puddle to form around the base of the toilet. When the contractors came out the first time, it stopped leaking and so, I was very frustrated. The guy had to go away without fixing anything. Then the second time, I had to call them back because it started leaking again, and the guy came out. He said that it was a valve inside my plumbing and that he would replace the whole thing for me. I wasn't charged another fee because it was a return within 30 days. So, it was a good experience. I've had other things fixed and typically, the service is good. I renewed and it will be effective in July but the price keeps getting more expensive each year.

I've already had three claims, and all three of them have been 5s so far with American Home Warranty. I use a lot of different web-based and phone-based systems and AHS' was really easy to use. Their computer system's very concise and easy to navigate and their reps were fantastic. I could go through the system and have them call me back in about 20 minutes because if they have a high call volume, they let me know. When I have a question or a concern over the phone, they would ask, "Do you mind holding for just a minute? Let me call so and so." And they would make the phone call immediately which makes me feel the sense of urgency to correct the problem with them.

When I submitted a claim online for my refrigerator and my stove whose touch pad wasn't working, I got an email response immediately. Within 24 hours, I had the appliance company calling me to schedule an appointment. They came within two days and I told them what the problem was. They looked at my ice maker and determined it may be my reverse osmosis system. It wasn't getting any water to the fridge, so he put that on hold. They also looked at my stove and said the panel's probably defective and needed to be replaced. They ordered a part and in two business days, they were back, had it replaced, and had me all set. Since then, everything has been fantastic.

The American Home Shield process was too long. The first technician that came in for my washer was very detached, almost dissuasive. He didn't wanna be here. My washer is old and I like it and all I needed to do was push and hold the button. I was trying to duplicate my washer because it stops and he didn't wanna wait for the cycle which only takes six minutes long. He said that there was nothing wrong with the washer. AHS sent a second guy who was patient and he saw that the issue was with the timer and he fixed it. The repair took a while though because of the gap with the first and second guy. I've been with AHS for around 10 years and spent about $5,000 of protection, so I got annoyed when the first guy said that there was nothing wrong with the washer. Also, AHS usually contracts with the company Active Appliances and they never call right away. I always really had to hound them.

My pool pump stopped and whenever the guy that services my pool came by, he said, “Your pump is not working.” His company, Cowtown Pools, did my cleaning and they’ve serviced my pool for a number of years. They always do me a good job. That’s why I requested them. They know me and they know my equipment. We had a technician come out and confirmed that it was a pool pump, and so he replaced it, and they were all paid the service fee. My experience with them went well. They repaired the pool pump and did it within a convenient time without any problems and difficulty. They did a good job and everything is working fine. This past week, I had to have two flush valves replaced and the plumbers were F6 out of Alvarado, and they did me a really good job.

I also had my thermostat that went out at the same time. So, the next day, I used some air conditioning people. They used to be with American Home Shield. That’s how I found them. But they're no longer with them. But they did my checkups and things, and he found that my thermostat was not working. I called American Home Shield and told them that all of my equipment was working and that they thought that it was in the thermostat. They called Baxter Air Conditioning and Heating here in Mansfield. Their response was quick, which was good. I had a good experience with them. They replaced the thermostat and it's working within a short period of time. So, those experiences recently have been very good. However, I had a real serious, uncomfortable, undesirable, terrible experience with AHS and with the plumbers they sent out. I was really, really upset and concerned about what happened.

Back in January, we had a plumbing problem. My sinks stopped up and both our sinks in our master bathroom were stopped up. They were clogged and it was awful. I called AHS the next day and I told them that we had a problem. They said, “Okay. Your plumber will be SDL, and they're out of Seagoville.” They had a plumber come out the very next day and he came out with a little hand Roto-Rooter. We had cleaned out underneath both the cabinets so that he could get through, but he never even looked underneath the cabinets at the sinks. He tried his little hand rooter and said, “I'm gonna have to go down through the vents.” Then he came back and said, “Well, I can't get through the vents. You're gonna have to have somebody come in here and go down, and it's gonna cost $589.”

I called AHS and talked to a guy and he said, “Yeah. These are good people. They really do a good job. I'll have somebody go to him. This is what has to be done and what needs to be done. You're gonna have to pay that. American Home Shield will not cover that. That’s your expense.” So the guy came out, and he had brought a supervisor from SDL. And they couldn’t get down through the vents, so they said, “Well, we're gonna have to go underneath the slab. We're gonna have to do a lot of work. And it's gonna cost you $6,000.” He was gonna send him out the next day or so to do some stuff. But AHS said they needed to get a second opinion, which was smart. I'd give them credit for that.

And so, AHS sent this guy from F6, the ones that I used for recently from Alvarado. And the guy walked in there and I told him what was going on. He said, “Let me show you how to unstop a sink.” He got his Roto-Rooter out, his snake, and then within an hour or less, he had everything completely cleaned out and working wonderfully. The other contractor was gonna try to charge $6,000 for all this other stuff. And thank goodness, the person in authorization department said they needed to get a second opinion. If you go online and look at the SDL plumbing company out of Seagoville and read their reviews, you'll notice that most of them are all negative. It is a scam, con company.

I said to AHS authorization department that I needed to be reimbursed. They said, “Well, that’s between you and the plumbing company.” And I was out of $589 for nothing. They were trying to scam me for $6,000. Now, I'm not making any accusations when I make this remark. It sounds to me like somebody, somewhere is getting a kickback. The guy in the AHS authorization department was the one that recommended and confirmed with the plumber that going down through the vents was needed to be done. So, someone should be held responsible.

I wasn’t happy about not being reimbursed. I've been an AHS customer for 16 years but I'm now considering looking at other companies to do the kind of warranties like this. Nevertheless, I'm pleased with F6, the plumbers that I got this last time. I'm pleased with the air conditioning guy too. I still stay with AHS because it's a heck of a mess to try to change over and get things. But I told the people in the authorization department, “Don’t ever recommend SDL to me again. Those people are crooks.” And some of the reviews that you read online will say the same thing, almost identical to what I had said. The authorization department is responsible for that. They need look at reviews and say, “This is a good vendor or this is a poor vendor.”

I have called in before and I know the service people that do a good job and those who don’t. And they said, “Well, this is the one that pops up, and we can't send them out.” And I said, “Look. I'm your customer. I know who is good and who is not.” American Home Shield had sent me some smart people in the past. And I said, “Look. They know me. They know my equipment, etc,” and they finally would agree and would send the people I requested but I've had them to argue with me. Now, many of them have been very courteous, very kind and considerate, but some of them have been downright almost ugly.

However, I'm still upset over the fact that I was encouraged to have someone go down through the vents, which cost me nearly $600 for nothing. Somebody needs to get with SDL and straighten them out, or AHS needs to drop them as a vendor. They should be made by AHS to make that reimbursement. But they're not gonna do it because of the fact that that guy in the AHS authorization department said, “We're not gonna be responsible for this. It's between you and the plumber.” And that’s their cover. And so, I don’t think I'll ever recover that $589, which I'm not happy about. I'm a retired senior citizen on a fixed income so that's fair. I'm not really angry at American Home Shield. I'm disappointed though that they didn’t try to do more, didn’t try to go to the company. And if they continue to recommend people to use that company, in my opinion, AHS does not go as high as it used to.

Recently, I called in and asked for Cowtown Pools and they said, “We can't send anybody." I talked to Cowtown Pools and I was told, “Well, just call back and tell them that we can take them.” I called back, and AHS said, “No, We're not gonna do that.” That happened with Cowtown. So, I just waited until Monday and called back. And I got through quick, and they were fine. Also, this last situation with replacing the flush valves in my bathrooms and then replacing thermostat went through great, and so I do give an A plus on those experiences.

There was an issue with our air conditioning unit and American Home Shield used the company Element Air. Element Air was very good and they’re about the only ones on the air conditioning side I’d like to come in to the house compared to the other vendors that AHS has on their list. Element Air was very timely and they got the issue corrected. However, in general, we’ve had some issues with the contractors that AHS has used in other instances in the Florida area especially in plumbing. The plumbers that they have on their list are inadequate at best. I’ve got a couple that I won't even have in the house anymore. They’re not worth the time. I keep telling AHS to pay a little more and get a better vendor to come out and represent them rather than getting the cheapest bidders but it seems to fall on deaf ears. It doesn’t seem to be getting pushed up to the next level.

There were situations that I had to do a lot of legwork and it got frustrating. If they hear about it one time, they should be able to fix the problem. And if they’ve got a substandard contractor coming out to the property, I would at least expect them to tell me that they would take care of the problem and get somebody who is reliable. I did this once. I got my own plumber who I’ve used for other issues but AHS just settled for about 20 cents on the dollar and I had to pick up the rest of it. AHS should start using more reliable contractors across the board. I’ve thought about dropping the service a couple of times just because of that reason but I’ve stayed with them for the fact that we’ve had some issues pop up and I’d rather go ahead and know that this is my fixed cost versus not.

We got the house re-keyed and we submitted a claim online with AHS to have it done. Their online process was very easy to do and they sent out Holders Inc. pretty quickly. My wife was there when the techs came out and she said that they were extremely professional and very nice people. They called before they came and were very courteous while they were there. Also, it just took them a couple of hours to complete the work.

My mom had American Home Shield when she lived in St. Louis, and I knew about them. I had always thought about getting it then, but it was like a fleeting moment. Finally, I said I was just gonna do it, and I'm glad I did, because now I have peace of mind. My mom used AHS a lot with some of her appliances, and the experience with them was always professional and quick, and it was great.

Once, my dryer was getting hot and shutting off mid-cycle, and I submitted a claim to AHS for it. It was very easy and helpful to just get online and do it. DM Repair came out and the tech ran the unit. He also went outside and checked the hose. He pulled the dryer out and tested the hose, and he saw where it was clogged. He said that was probably the issue that was going on with it. I told him that we've been there for 14 years, and although I've cleaned out the vents and the outside, I didn't have the tools to get really deep in to clean it. So that might have had something to do with it.

The tech said our dryer was still working very nicely. He showed me one cycle on there that I never even knew that I had. He said I might wanna use that more. It's like a sensor that tells how wet your clothes are and how much it needs to dry instead of doing the timer on it. Then he ran the unit again while he stayed there. He gave me a courtesy cleaning, although it's not covered, and cleaned out the vent. He was very professional, friendly, helpful and informative. DM Repair is really good, and I have nothing but nice things to say about them. I would suggest to AHS to keep them as one of their contracting companies. I've been with AHS since last August and it's our first experience with a warranty company. It was a smooth transaction and it was very pleasant.

A valve on the hot water recycling system burst in the garage and was spraying water everywhere. I had to figure out how to turn that system off. We then called American Home Shield to arrange to have a plumber come out. At that juncture, we needed somebody out here rapidly as we could get him, so online didn’t seem like a reasonable option. We felt that we needed to make arrangements on the phone and get it handled as promptly as we could.

While we would’ve preferred to use the plumber who has worked on our house all along, that plumber wasn’t on their list. Instead, they sent Poe’s and the plumber from Poe's came out in a timely fashion. He was very courteous and he seemed to be clean and knowledgeable. But he had to go get parts, so he went and got the parts and came back and made the repairs. He was unobtrusive and did a good job.

Other than that, when I went online to renew the insurance, I was shocked at the price. Then I opened up one of their e-mails about purchasing their service and went through the process of doing that, and it was substantially cheaper to do it on an e-mail. But it appears that it created a new account instead of just renewing the insurance that I had in the old account. My computer experience with American Home Shield has not been particularly favorable.

One of our AC units wasn’t cooling to what it was supposed to be cooling to. I went to the American Home Shield site, clicked the button and made the appointment. Navigating the site was pretty good. I went to see what I needed to do to submit the claim, it popped up in the front page and said for some spring tune-up special, I could get my AC serviced for 75 bucks. When the contractor called, she said her first opening was on a Monday but that didn't work for me 'cause I was out of town. She came on my first day back in town which was a Tuesday or a Wednesday.

I got the Sevier AC Service. The tech called and said he was gonna be there in about 30 minutes. When he came in, he told us that everything looked good. Everything's been working and in order since. Now, the AC goes unnoticed. It kicks on when it's supposed to and it cools. Everything's been great so far. It was my first claim and it went well. It was easy and painless.

American Home Shield was offering $75 to clean my air-conditioner to make sure that it was ready for the season. They told me to make sure that the air conditioner was running because if it wasn't, then I may need a repair versus just having it cleaned and it was gonna be two different services. I went home and I turned on my AC but it was not running. So, I cancelled the claim for the cleaning and then put in another one for repair because it really was a repair.

The contractor that AHS sent was very professional. He let me know what the problem was. Then, he gave me the manual and made sure that I read it and then he told me what my options were as to what type of service that I could get as a replacement. Then, he said that I would need to follow up and ask to get the unit cleaned but that it would be a different service request. He was pretty clear. My air conditioner got fixed and now, it's doing what it's supposed to do. I would recommend American Home Shield.

They gave me a window between 9:00 in the morning and 1:00 in the afternoon but at the quarter after 1:00, I had to call them to see where they were. They told me that they were just about to call me, that their guy was running late. He showed up at 2:45, spent a minute here, looked at the fan. He turned it on and the fan wasn’t running. He told me that I would have to call somebody else. I asked him if he could just turn it into a repair request. So, he called his office and then he told me that he couldn’t do it and that I indeed would have to make another claim. He left and then his office called to tell me that they would take care of the repair. I told them that I’m not gonna let them touch anything in the house. They were extremely unprofessional.

I then called AHS and I told them how the whole thing went down. I was upset when I called because I was aggravated with the other company and it has been just minutes after they left. They sensed that I was aggravated and tried to smooth everything out and they did a really good job. I was impressed with their customer service. The guy that they sent for the repair was awesome. He gave me a two-hour window and he was here right at the beginning of the window. He looked at the unit and he had to get a part, ran out, got the part, came back and put it in on the same day and everything was perfect. I’ve used AHS three times now and they’ve got everything repaired.

Even though it was on in the house, the fan wasn't going outside, so my husband called American Home Shield to have somebody come out. My husband had called Moore Air LLC when he hung up with AHS and he left a voicemail. I followed up with the tech again the next day and he answered and was able to come out within the next couple of hours. They fixed the AC really quickly. They were really awesome and very nice. They showed up within the timeframe that they told me that they were, which was nice. It is summer here in Arizona, so I wasn't expecting them to be able to come out so quickly, but he said, "Does this time work for you?" He gave me a timeframe and he was out within the timeframe.

They were very friendly and I appreciated the fact that they were really trustworthy. I am a woman and I was at home by myself, so it always can be a scary thing when you have strangers in your house, but I didn't feel odd at all. I felt very comfortable. The tech told me what was going on and, right off the bat, he said that I probably had a loose wire. Again, they were here around 10 minutes tops and he was able to fix that. Even once they fixed it, they still stayed and checked the air pressure and they said they could already see it was cooling down, which I could feel instantly. They had me sign some papers after they checked everything. It was really great. The AC is still running really good so far and hopefully, it stays that way.

The AC was not going as cool as it needed to and we filed a claim with American Home Shield, which went well. The contractor came two days later and checked the AC. He said it was the evaporator coil and he would write up the report to give to AHS. I got a call on Thursday telling me that the portion that AHS would not cover would be $620. Southern Comfort told me that I had to pay the $620 and then, the contractor would order the parts and be able to proceed with fixing the AC. I didn’t hear anything on Friday and I called to ask if everything was ordered. They said they were still waiting to hear back from American Home Shield. I called back Southern Comfort and they got the denial of the evaporator coil from AHS but they told AHS that there was no reason to be changing the whole unit and they advised against it.

AHS was saying that it was more cost-effective because once they try to change the unit, it would be out of the range of what they cover and so, they were trying to tell me they were not gonna pay anything towards it. But the evaporator coil was under it and I only had to pay the $620. They were telling me it was past their threshold and so, they were trying to throw it into my lap. The last thing they said when I talked to them today was that they would do a cash-out. I asked what that was and they said that they would send it to another department, which would let me know how much they were willing to pay me. They would give me that money, and I have to fix it on my own.

I haven't heard back from AHS. I spoke to Southern Comfort and asked if they could get me a quote on how much it would cost me. They said they can apply that $620 to whatever I decide to do. I'm here with no air. I’ve been with American Home Shield since September 2017 and this was my first time ever doing a claim with them. I'm dropping them because they're a waste of my money.

We were gonna be out of town that week. And so, we scheduled him last Monday. He showed up the afternoon of Monday. He was very good. He already told us what he thought was wrong with the dishwasher just over the phone, and already had the part needed. He put the part on, and then was out and gone. He fixed the dishwasher and it worked perfectly. It takes a lot of coordination to get things to work the right way. Overall, it was a very good experience with AHS.

My most recent claim with AHS was a nightmare. My heat wasn't working and I called AHS and they gave me a name of a company that they would put me in touch with and vice-versa. I would always wanna check out who I'm letting in my home. I am a widow, alone so I'm not just letting a stranger in. When I checked out this company, they did not have good reviews. I called American Home Shield back and asked them for another company name. They gave me another company name whose reviews were worse than the first. Then they sent the third one out, who only had a couple reviews but at least they were favorable. So, I gave them a try. American Comfort Builder's sent out a gentleman to check things out.

The tech that came out was very personable but it became quickly apparent to me, somebody didn't know what they were really doing. They left with the job not being done. Then they didn't come back. They stood me up a couple times. Then we were gonna have the lead tech come out. I had to be pro-active all the way by calling American Comfort Builder's, "Okay, you said between 3:00 and 5:00. I know it's 4 o'clock, we still have some time. But I just wanna make sure I didn't get dropped again. So unless I called it's not like they kept me abreast of things after their first tech blew it.

And then 5 o'clock came and went and I was not calling them back. I was not hearing from them and was freezing now. So, I knew their office closed by 6:00, but I was still waiting. I couldn't even live in my house. It was 40 to 44 degrees inside. When I called about two minutes before 6:00, I said, "Your guy didn't show up, I'm not speaking with you guys any more. I'm strictly gonna deal with American Home Shield 'cause after all, I am their customer." I'm at my friends now, finally getting some dinner and warmed up. And at 7:11 PM, there's a call from a number that's not known to me. I didn't answer it because I was still upset about them not coming at all and I'm sitting in this freezing house.

So, consequently, it ended up being a voice message and when I listened to it later that evening, it was American Comfort Builder's guy -- very nice. But you know what, talk is cheap and when you talk the talk but you're not walking the walk, that's just doesn't bode well. I understand, in order to be in business, they're paying a certain amount like AAA does for their tow drivers. But when they pay peanuts, they are gonna get monkeys. My guy didn't even go to MacGyver's school of fix-it. Had that been my first experience with anything with American Home Shield, I would have been saying, "What the heck?" But I had had two minor plumbing problems when I moved into this condo, and the plumber that came out was great, knowledgeable and fixed the job.

Then, here's my other issue with the whole issue. I called American Home Shield right away, talked to customer service to say, "Hey, now this is what's happened. I tried to do it your way,." I called them before I tried this American Comfort Builder's the second time. I know I got to call to ask if I could call my own guy that I had 13 plus years at my old house that knows what he's doing." I gave them another chance and then customer service, "Okay, call and let us know how everything's going." So, I call, I get a different person. I told my story to five different people and all I kept doing is getting bounced around unto the Filipino outsourcing.

I'm not being a hater or anything. I have a Filipino daughter and Filipino grandchildren. It was just that I said then, at the last two conversations, "I want the United States and I want a manager." Once again, I get a couple ladies and then at one point, "Well, the company said you cancelled on them." "No," I said. I wasn't gonna deal with them anymore. I was only gonna deal with them because they're getting the money for the policy. They're sending me monkeys out here to do the work or nobody comes. And that's when we worked for the negotiation. I had my guy replaced the unit. I needed to live in my home. Whether American Home Shield was gonna help me or not at that point, I needed to take care of the immediate, which I did.

In the end, American Home Shield came through, and I was very glad. But from now on if I have a problem, I'm not calling their customer service because I'm being a bounced around from country to country, and being made felt like I'm the bad guy. I'm gonna go through June or someone like the folks that helped me at the end because that was flipping ridiculous.

I'm so in love with American Home Shield. They made things so easy. We just bought a new home and had it re-keyed. At first, I didn't know AHS does that, but when I received the email with an offer, I thought, "Yes. Perfect." Submitting the claim was very easy. I did it online, then, they called and set the appointment up. Michael came out. He was absolutely amazing, very helpful and went out of his way for us. He's like family now. We had four keys for different locks to the house. Besides what AHS offered, I had him do the others at our expense. He re-keyed the entire house with one key, which is very convenient for my 88-year-old mother.

Just last night, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the refrigerator and dishwasher. The ice maker was broken, the refrigerator was leaking water, and then the dishwasher is not working properly. Submitting the claim online was easy. Using their website was very simple. Everybody that American Home Shield sent out has been awesome. The AHS contractors will be in touch with me in 24 hours, and then usually, I coordinate with them, and they usually come out within a day or two, depending on the severity of the issue. I've never really had any problems.

I haven't had a problem right away when the contractors leave. However, three or four months down the road, the same issue pops up again. Normally, whoever comes out will usually give me about two months. Usually, when what was repaired breaks again for the same issue, I gotta open it up with American Home Shield through another case. The issue that I'm having right now happened last September, and I brought it up to them and said, "Hey, this is the fourth time this has happened." And they said, "No problem. Our guy will take care of it." They took care of it. About two months later, it broke again. That company came out on their own, replaced the entire unit, and it went bad again just now. So, it will be the seventh call I'd have had on this.

So far, AHS has greatly improved. When we had them initially when we first bought our house, I didn't like them one bit. It was very difficult to get anything done. But they have made a complete 180 on their website and the calls. When I call in, somebody answers within five minutes. There used to be a one hour wait time to call in. It's been great. They have improved over the years. I almost left them and went with Sears, but they gave me a discounted rate for the second year which was really crazy cheap. No one else could come close. And some manager called me and was like, "Hey, we're in a process of changing things around. I promise it's gonna get better." I took his word for it, and they did. I was really surprised. I recommend American Home Shield and I've recommended them already. I'm a Realtor, and when I work with folks, I usually give them three or four home warranty companies, and American Shield is always one of them.

The appliances have been perfect since the repairs. We had a water softener that was not functioning correctly, and it was very easy to submit the claim. Generally, American Home Shield has been responsive. After filing the claim, the technician came out in about two days. He has been great and very helpful. But the microwave was so old that they had to get a replacement. I was on the phone for five hours. I had to call the manufacturer, get information and see if it was fixed. Then, they sent out the installer but he wasn't able to install it 'cause it was not the right microwave and it didn't have the right filler kit over the stove.

I called them back again because I sent them pictures and gave them all my measurements for the space. It was their responsibility. They said that I have to pay $100 restocking fee. I haven't contested it with them yet, but I need to call them back and say that I don't wanna pay the fee because they gave me a microwave that doesn't fit in my space. Hopefully, when I get a microwave that works, the service tech who tried to fix my microwave originally would be able to come back out 'cause their company had good ratings and he was fine.

We needed to have an electrician troubleshoot two outlets that, for some reason, were not working. It was not something that a consumer could do and I filed the claim with American Home Shield. I did it over the phone and it was much simpler than I ever imagined. Often, when you call, voice prompts don’t understand what you're saying and it gets you repeating yourself. But these voice prompts worked so well. They understood exactly and it was very smooth. American Home Shield promised a response from the contractor within 24 hours and that did happen within the timeframe. Then GJC came out within a couple of days. It was very timely and the contractor was excellent.

He was very professional. He followed directions, showed up on time and was dressed professionally. The truck was nice too. He came in and was cooperative and quiet. He went about his work very methodically. He knew exactly what to test, had all the proper equipment and fixed it really easily because he knew what he was doing. He found where there were some disconnects and he just reconnected them. He did the troubleshooting where he thought there could be a problem and he was correct. It was no big deal.

He also checked the box downstairs and made sure all the power was powering properly. In fact, he didn’t just work on the outlet. He had gone to the box first. Inexperienced people may often take a different method but my understanding is that you check the box first. Overall, the experience was so easy. I really didn’t expect that. But it's no reflection on the company. It's just the way of the world today. You buy warranties and then when you need help, it's another story. But this was great and I've already recommended American Home Shield to a couple of friends.

Since January, my husband and I have been inconvenienced by AHS' contractor Jerry and Michael's. We've had issues with our two refrigerators. My husband was told not to leave work early because their guy said he was gonna be here. But he never showed up on each one. My husband couldn't do it anymore. My husband was told not to leave early anymore from work anymore. The technician showed up two hours late and my husband could've stayed at work. We tried to get a hold of him but he didn't get on his cell.

I kept telling AHS how many times the technician had been out here - five times. How many times does a customer paying for these services have to go through this with somebody who is inefficient and incompetent? AHS needs to get that technician off their list. Supposedly, they don't even get paid for these service calls. Supposedly, he's gonna get paid after he puts something in.

I've never heard of somebody coming back five times to fix something that should've been fixed on the first diagnostic. He put in a part and now he's saying that's per the American Home Shield warranty. The agent today told me that Jerry & Michael's put down on their report that they submitted last night that the guy was out here last night but he was not out here. Per the diagnostic that supposedly he did, two new parts are now needed. On the first diagnostic, that should've showed. This guy is shady.

I had to keep telling my husband to empty the vegetable bins because water accumulates. We can't even store anything in our vegetable bins. The water still pools after the guy's steaming on April 9th. That didn't work again because he doesn't know what he's doing. Our refrigerator is worse now than January. There's more water coming in the vegetable bins. At one point, we lost food because it was off for 24 hours. It was a nightmare. It pisses me off and I hope AHS listens to this.

I called AHS' customer service a third time. They put me on hold and they talked to a manager to get an approval. Long story short, today I just found out that if another guy comes out from a separate company to give a second opinion and maybe it could be the correct one now, we have to pay another $75 service fee. I hope whoever is listening to this would listen. I don't want somebody to go through this crap.

We pay AHS every month. But they're not looking after us. They're looking after their contracts with their idiots. I've been on the phone and I've been on the live chat every time this problem happens. It's bad. We get something on our emails from AHS asking about the service of the technician. I even put down so other people know that the guy shows up two hours late.

My most recent claim was to fix a part in our microwave, and submitting it online at American Home Shield was fairly easy and seamless. The contractor from GE Appliances gave me a window and a certain day, and that was sufficient. He was delightful. There was a part that simply had to be replaced for the microwave to continue working, and it has improved operations tremendously.

The faucet connected to my house got broken so we called American Home Shield to file the claim on a Saturday. A contractor came out Sunday afternoon and when I got home, it was fixed. The faucet has been working well ever since. AHS customer service was fine and my issue with the faucet was taken care of but when I had an issue with my refrigerator before, it took them two months to do something with it. The contractor kept on coming out here to fix it and they did not do their jobs. AHS was not communicating well with the company.

It was my first time with those people, so I have requested for them not to be somebody who we would call on again and if we could get them off our list. I probably called AHS 20 times for my refrigerator. I was thankful enough to get one person at the end but I also had to call and request for a supervisor. Given my recent experience, it went well. I'm very happy with American Home Shield and I really liked the insurance.

The new part that they put in was a heating element, and it got so hot that it burned up another part. They had to be called out again to fix that. There was a loud noise whenever the heater would be turned on in our furnace. We submitted a claim for it online. We originally were signed up with a different group, who I was extremely disappointed with. They cancelled on us twice. I put in the claim on a Tuesday and it took them two days to even schedule a time. Then, they cancelled on us, rescheduled, like they would just come on Friday, then rescheduled for Monday due to “weather”. But then, on Monday, after I stayed home for two days to make sure that they showed up from work, they cancelled, failed to let me know that they had cancelled, and then, I had to get a second person out there. So, I was very unhappy there. Summer Breeze who came next was great. They responded right away. They called to confirm the appointment and I have no complaints with them whatsoever.

They were very professional and knew right away what was wrong. I have several properties that I have had with American Home Shield, but I’ve canceled due to lots of problems, usually with the plumbing company that they have.

If I turn in a request for appliances or some other service request, I’ve had good luck with American Home Shield. But if I have to turn in a plumbing problem, the companies that they send out are not professional at all, and they mess up more than they fix. One policy should have renewed last month, but I didn’t renew it for that reason. In the last five years AHS have sent A-1 Plumbing, out, and they are terrible.

I called American Home Shield initially but then I filed the claim online and it went very smoothly. When I made the initial appointment, I had told the contractor that I had the faucet in the master bathroom tub that I needed to have replaced. I explained the situation that I was renovating my master shower. And when I got around to the point of replacing the faucet, it was above my paygrade. I didn’t know how to slit copper and the wall was open so everything was exposed. When the young man got there, he said it was gonna be $500 to replace that faucet. Needless to say, I declined. Since the repair, the toilet is still the same as it was. If there’s no solid in it, it flushes fine. But if there are, even just tissue, it almost overflows every time. Fortunately, I got two bathrooms. Other than that, I've had great service from American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's contractors are very professional but their flexibility is not the best. If I submit the claim in the morning, I usually get a response from the contractor during the afternoon. But that is just for the consultation of setting the schedule time. They usually have a standard window when to expect a contractor, like within 24 hours. The young guy Everest sent was very thorough, very professional and easy to deal with. He checked for the leak. We couldn't determine where the leak was, but we'll have to wait and see. But overall, everything was good. AHS was pretty easy to deal with. The warranty is certainly not inexpensive but it has value for the services they provide. The warranty worked for us. I needed to have my refrigerator repaired. I filed a claim with AHS and within 24 hours, they got someone scheduled to come out. The first tech was a gentleman and he didn’t even wanna work with me. So, I called Home Shield and they sent me over another tech in a couple of days. The other tech that came in was from Appliance 911 and he was professional and courteous. Unfortunately, he couldn't work on a GE equipment software. So, he did whatever he could then Home Shield sent me a GE tech to update the software. Apparently, I had a software that GE didn’t give to a third vendor and they had to be the ones that installed it in their appliances. After three weeks, everything was well.

I have AHS for numerous years now. I got them through the military and I had them when I was in Washington as well as in Colorado. I've had great service from them and that was why I went back to them when I got here in San Antonio. They do awesome service as long as they send the right tech. I've been doing this and that to save some money and when AHS sends the person that are trained on certain equipment or appliances, it makes life easier. It might cost a dollar more or two, but in reality, it saves Home Shield more money instead of sending somebody that don’t know what to do and they resort back to the company.

So, if the appliance with a problem is a GE, AHS should send a GE rep. That'd be easier and more efficient. It would save their good reputation with the customer and at the same time, the manufacturer that owns the equipment would repair it faster which would save a few dollars more compared to sending two or three different techs that just end up messing the piece of equipment. It also makes the appliance repairable. Some other third-party repair company would say that they couldn't repair the appliance and Home Shield would end up buying their customer a new one. I've seen that happen all the time and even my neighbor had the same thing with their dishwasher. The dude came out and didn’t know what to do. They ended up buying a new washing machine and Home Shield replaced their old one for nothing.

We had two issues. One was the toilet in the downstairs area of the house that was leaking, and there was a small leak under the kitchen sink. And when the contractor came out, he looked at the toilet, and assessed it and found that, apparently, whoever owned it before us had put tile down there, but they didn't do anything to raise where the seal was. So the seal was never actually touching the toilet, so that was the leak there. And he fixed that, and it's been fine.

The kitchen sink, the pipe running from the garbage disposal to the main-drain wasn't put in properly. And so he redid that, but we're still having the leak there. So they're coming back today to look at it and see what else is going on. My only issue with the whole thing was when we found that the kitchen sink was still leaking, I called the company, High Priority, because when the plumber came, he said the work is under warranty for 60 days. So I called them back, and said the kitchen sink is still leaking. And they said they can't do it with us calling them, we have to go through the home warranty people again. So that seemed like extra red tape. It just made it take longer to get somebody out here.

And even though the plumber said their work was warrantied for 60 days, American Home Shield says that it's only 30. So that was a discrepancy that I wasn’t thrilled about. But other than that, the day that I talked to High Priority Plumbing, they transferred me over to American Home Shield, and they got it set up. It was really only a day later.

The plumber was great. He seemed to be very knowledgeable and knew exactly what to do for the toilet. He showed me in each instance what was going on, which I appreciated. A lot of times, they'll just start working and never mention anything till they're done. But he seemed very professional and efficient, so I don't have any complaints about that. We also call when we file claims and the representatives are great.

This company's customer service is a complete joke! They were quick to send out a plumber to diagnose our issue, but then allow 24-48 hrs to receive it before approving/resolving your claim. When we followed up 48 hours later, the rep. says the plumber tried to submit without success, give another 24 hrs!! That is 3 days without hot water in a home with small children! They didn't even have a valid reason for the failed attempt to submit the diagnosis. What kind of company accepts this from its contractors that represent them?! Furthermore, when I requested to speak to a service manager, I was told nothing further would be done by a manager and not connected to one. Beyond frustrating. I have been with AHS for over 10 years, but this may be my last. Service request cost have almost doubled during that time, but service has gotten worse. They want you make payment upfront, for service calls, but they do not follow up to make sure work has been completed. I just got off phone with customer service for service request that I placed on 3/16. They told me the parts were ordered on 3/30, 9 days after the tech came to the house. Parts were delivered to the tech 4/8, but as of 4/20 no one has called or attempted to make repairs. But online it showed that repair was completed. My last 3 repairs have followed this same pattern - they take payment upfront then take over 30 days to fix. I have removed all credit cards on file, so they cannot auto renew while I search for a new company. Service is poor. Do not expect any follow up from AHS, once you make your payment.

Back in January, we had an issue with the heater. I called American Home Shield and they sent out someone from Perry Mechanical. They diagnosed the part and said that the heater needed some kind of valve. AHS approved it and then the contractor put the part in and I was charged 11 pounds of Freon. That was in March. This April, we had the same problem where the heater wasn't working again. So, I called AHS and they sent out this other company, Total Air Care. They first diagnosed it as the same problem that was fixed and they wanted to charge me for more Freon which wasn’t right. The AHS lady that I spoke with told me that it wasn’t right since I already paid for that and it was under the warranty time. So, she approved after a song and a dance with a couple of people.

And then, I got a call from the repair place and they just declined the claim. I asked them to give me someone's name. Finally, I got ahold of a guy who said he would take care of it. Everything went through finally and someone from Total Air Care came out. He was good. He did some troubleshooting and figured out what the problem was. He found out that it was a totally different piece that presents itself the same way and he fixed it, and I was happy. The heater has been working ever since. AHS stepped up the last time because I didn't have to pay for the Freon again.

During the claims process with AHS, I would talk to one person and I may not talk to that person again. So, if I get something resolved with person A and for some reasons something happened, I have to call back and get person B. Person B would say, "Well, that's not how it works." I have to explain the problem and get it resolved multiple times. And depending on the skill of the person I'm dealing with and handling it, they might not have the same knowledge as the person that fixed it or came to a conclusion with me. Communication is lacking on the different people. Person A should know what person B is on, or they shouldn't say anything.

Also, some of AHS's policies are a little vague. We had an issue with the water where we had a leak in the outside faucet. The leak in the faucet was covered and the contractor that AHS sent was able to fix it. But the guy had knocked out a block and it had an eight-inch hole. He said that they don't fix that as it was not covered and that I had to fix it myself.

I heard about American Home Shield from my neighbor and we got the policy about a few months ago. It’s been great so far. I filed claims online and navigating through the website is very easy. The techs who have came out were excellent. They fixed things and everything is awesome. When our air conditioning broke down, someone came in, assessed the problem, ordered the part, came back, and repaired it. The air conditioning works perfectly now. Everything was completed in 3 days and it was quite swift had not been for the weekend in between. Keep up the great work American Home Shield.

When I submitted claims to American Home Shield in the past, I would get an operator. Now however, I do the claim via an automated system and it just asks me what appliance has an issue. I say it and then it tells me that they have to charge me my service fee. Lately, I’ve had three different things come up in my house. One of them was a garbage disposal that wasn't working at all. Something had gotten caught in there and I thought I was gonna have to get it replaced. However, it didn't need to be replaced as the tech from ASAP Plumbing who was sent worked it and found the piece of metal that fell in there. That was a relief. I know AHS would have taken care of it if it needed to be replaced. Still, the repair was well taken care of and I haven’t had any problems with my garbage disposal at all since.

I've also had different problems with my upstairs unit. Every time someone comes out, the problem is something different. It kinda scares me that I might have to get another unit for my upstairs. Also, when I have to pay an extra price for the freon for my AC, they only cover a certain amount which is a bit irritating. Still, everything has been good with AHS and I've been happy with them. A lot of my friends and people I know left AHS and complained about them. I've told them AHS has been good to me. I’m not always calling but then in this past month, I’ve had to call three times for the AC, the garbage disposal, and then yesterday, I finally got the washer guy. I pay the service fee and they get it done. I recommend AHS. Everybody should try them.

AHS should maybe check out who they're sending prior to giving them to the customer. If you're gonna vouch for a company and ask them to come out and service you, there should be quality. I've had two or three contractors in my years with AHS and when my mentioned problem happened, I asked AHS for somebody else. I make my claims online with AHS and it's easy. All I have to know is my ZIP code and my address. Everything has been fine.

Everything has been fine with our claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioning. However, we have a problem with the refrigerator. At the beginning, the contractors were good. They were efficient and helpful. This is our lake house, so we have a problem when we could meet there. My husband made a point of meeting them there when they could go. They said they needed to order some parts and kept saying they couldn’t find the parts so, the service has not been done. They said they were working on it. We are still waiting for it and we need to go back to the drawing board. We put the claim in over a month ago, so we are not very satisfied with this one. It could be the vendor who is the problem and we need to tell AHS to find us another vendor or give us a solution. So, for a certain extent, we need to contact American Home Shield again. We are happy with AHS but for the final solution, we are not.

I was told that they would call me within 24 hours and the contractor from RAB Electric was able to come at a very reasonable time. They asked what was going on, and I explained it to them. Submitting a claim for the water heater was frustrating at first. American Home Shield had canceled our account at one point without our request. We’ve been members with them for about 27 years, and then all of a sudden, we had that problem. Then when they finally said that they would cover it and that we are still customers with them, we were without hot water for at least a month because during the process of the plumbing, they insisted on replacing parts when the initial plumber that they sent out said that the water heater was corroded inside and that it already exceeded its lifetime and needed to be replaced.

In the end, they ended up replacing the whole heater. But the person from AHS that we dealt with was very courteous and very kind. It wasn’t the person that we were frustrated with, it was more with the company. We had been long-term customers, and it was like we were getting tossed on the wayside. But we seemed to have resolved that. The plumber that they sent out was fabulous. And the water heater is working flawlessly.

It was the same thing with the clogged drain where the plumber came out and he was done within an hour. When my laundry wouldn’t drain itself, I tried to clear it on my own with Drano and with my own hand crank snake but it wouldn’t work. A guy from Summit Plumbing came out, and he was very good and had the necessary tools to get the job done. He also gave me some good advice on how to keep it from happening again.

Then he went out and when I turned on the air conditioner, it was working though it was chattering a little bit.

But all of a sudden, as he was getting ready to take it apart and check the Freon, the condenser fan quit while he was standing over it. So, he changed that out and put the unit all back together. It’s been working just fine since and I was really happy with my experience. All in all, if anybody asked, I’d recommend AHS. Most recent plumber that was recommended by AHS said...(over the phone mind you) that our issue was in the yard and that AHS wouldn’t cover and I would have to pay an additional $400. AHS did nothing to help us and said no one else was available for my area. Now that I have escalated the issues with their company I can’t get anyone to return calls. DO not spend a dime on this warranty, it will cost you way more than it is worth! AVOID!!!!

The HVAC people they sent are incompetent. They misdiagnosed the issue twice and charged me $500 and that didn’t fix it. The guy replaces a reversing valve and welded the piece on top of my unit causing a burn to my outdoor unit and Home Shield is saying that they don’t get involved with that. Home Shield sent the people to my house and now that they have burned my outdoor unit and charged me $500 for a repair and that was not the problem and somehow every rep I speak with at Home Shield tells me that they can’t do anything. Home Shield is not helping me with this at all. My AC has been out for 3 weeks. No urgency at all. It is hot in my house and I have a 16 month old child and I am getting no assistance at all. This process is taking entirely too long.

After two failed visits from one technician, the company sent a senior tech who found that the previous guy didn’t even fill the unit with refrigerant. The senior tech said it was empty (mind you I paid this company $500 which was the charge for refrigerant). I have placed over 7 calls to Home Shield about this and they give me excuses and have no concern with helping me get my AC fixed. At this point, I think that AHS is a scam. I have paid premiums for over a year and both times that I have needed service, the issue has not been fixed. I paid for a warranty to protect my home and yet I’m spending money and nothing is getting resolved. At this point, I’ll have to call my own HVAC company to come out and try to verify what the issue is or find the issue. I am completely dissatisfied with Home Shield and they have lost a customer. They have done nothing to help me other than say we sent a message to our contractor relations team.

I can’t believe that 3 weeks have passed and my system is still down, I have burn marks on the outside of my unit, I’ve paid $625, taken off work 3 times to come meet the technician, placed 7 calls to Home Shield and another 10+ calls to the contractor and the issue is nowhere near being resolved. The customer service at Home Shield is terrible and they are literally no help.

I even asked Home Shield to speak with the contractor about returning my $500 because the part wasn’t bad and I didn’t need refrigerant. This contractor is just throwing parts at my system and I am just being dragged along for the ride. You would think that Home Shield would step up and take some responsibility since they are the ones who chose this company. I am left on my own trying to call the client Lang and handle this mess that Home Shield started by hiring the people and then they have the nerve to tell me that I have to contact the contractor because they have their own insurance and secondary damage has nothing to do with Home Shield.

This is literally the worst customer service experience that I have ever had. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and cancelling my contract as soon as this mess gets handled. My thermostat says it’s 89 degrees in my house, there is no breeze and my wife and I have allergies and I can’t open the windows to get any air and fans affect my sinuses. It’s to the point that we may have to go and stay at a hotel to be comfortable and not sweat all night until this foolishness is over. I am disgusted with Home Shield. This is not how you treat customers.

I am sure that Home Shield records conversations so they can look up my issue and verify that everything I have said is true. Do what I am paying you to do and get a competent person to fix my AC tomorrow. Anywhere else, not having AC is considered a priority at least to the point that it’s fixed within a few days instead of a few weeks.

American Home Shield had a preventative maintenance that they were doing this year. It's $85 and they have someone come out and just check. I set my AC on 76 but when I wake up in the morning, it's on 69. So, I needed to do it. Brown Air Conditioning came out and they were fantastic. They found that the system works fine.

In my most recent claim, my garbage disposal was not working and the contractor said there was food dropped in it. I didn’t feel like that was what was wrong with it but he said that’s what it was, and it worked. After 45 days, it broke completely and I had to pay another fee. They had to replace the whole thing. It’s kinda frustrating I had to pay $150. I wasn't happy about that but the garbage disposal is working now and it’s awesome. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and it takes a while to understand how it works. When my pool wasn't working, I didn't know what to pick such as why it was not working. You have to pick what it is and if you picked the wrong thing and the contractor comes out, looks at that thing and that's not what's wrong with it, then you have to pay again for someone to come out.

On my first year with AHS, the fan was not working and the electrician who came out didn’t fix it and left. He told me they had to order parts and would be back. I didn't even get an opportunity to call back AHS because I was waiting for this person to call me back to tell me that the parts are in so they could come fix it. They never ordered parts and they didn’t want to. He didn't wanna deal with me and wanted somebody else to do it. They were telling me that AHS wouldn’t pay for it and that it has been their history with how these things work out. I was upset because their technician lied to me and I was sick of waiting. If I would have known that they weren't gonna fix it and why they weren't going to fix it, then I would have done something else.

The contractor did the same thing to my doorbell. AHS won’t pay for the doorbell but they would pay for the wiring or if something was wrong and then, they wouldn’t check it. The contractor made a comment that the homeowner was getting him to look into all these other things. I was having an electrical issue on the house and I didn’t know how the policy worked. I was also having trouble with my ceiling fan and my microwave. The plug in the kitchen doesn’t work and so, I was thinking electrical. They told me that these were all individual things I had to call on. I paid every single time to AHS. When I renewed, it changed my policy so that I had the same coverages and everything but I pay more premium now because I've had too many claims and it was because it wasn't explained how it works.

The most recent service American Home Shield provided was for the routine cleaning for the air conditioning system and the representative was really good to deal with. I texted him because I was out and about and I couldn’t call, and they responded to me the same way. Then they called me. Then we texted again and set up the appointment. They came out as they said and the AC is running better now. It’s not coming off and on as much. The technician also showed us different things and gave us some ideas on how to keep the AC going better altogether. He was very knowledgeable and polite.

I have had American Home Shield for 10 years now and their claim process is really easy. I do it over the phone. In one claim, someone from Texas Best Heating & Air had to come out and replace the transformer. The drain pan had overflowed and shorted out the transformer in the air conditioner so he cleaned up the drain tube and got it going again. Then, One Hour Heating & Air came out and replaced the whole system for me. And that was outstanding. They were in and out in half a day, which was nice.

However, American Home Shield's coverage for Freon is very hard to swallow. I have an older style of air conditioner and when I put Freon in, I use a more expensive Freon. They would only pay $10 a pound for the Freon and the Freon costs $80 a pound so that leaves us with $70 a pound. If I'm looking at $600 to $800 out of pocket if they had to fix the air conditioner, then it didn’t seem like much of a plan to do. So, due to that Freon issue, I’ve had to drop their service and I’ve gone a different route. As for customer service, I’ve ran into a couple of telephone operators who didn't have English as their strong suit. It was very hard to get across what I needed done. Other than that, they’ve always been really receptive and responsive to what I needed.

The air conditioner stopped working and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I had a fine interaction with their rep but we were without an air conditioner for two weeks. Luckily, it wasn't a super-hot time but it was dragged out. We were given a choice of waiting for two weeks and get the part replaced for free or have someone to do it immediately and pay $600. We chose to have someone do it immediately and it was still five days before they got out. We waited half that long and still had to pay the $600 but it wasn’t a big deal. It would’ve been terrible if it had been in the middle of the summer, but luckily it wasn’t. Everything was okay other than the amount of time it took. It was unnecessary to keep us waiting that long to let us know what was going on.

Since the repair, the air conditioner has been okay but when the technician came back down from the attic and looked at the control panel inside the house, he said that it wasn’t working. He said that he had one in the truck and he could replace it. He put one on there and I didn’t notice it after he was gone, but it’s very inferior to the one we had and it doesn’t work very well. I even called them to come back out and look at it because I couldn’t read the printout. The numbers are so poorly defined that I have to stand on a stool to look at it. The other one we had was very accurate and it told what the temperature was outside but this one was not. It says it’s 68 when you know it’s more like 72.

When I called the contractor out the second time to look at it, he said there was nothing wrong with it. He could read it because he was taller than I was and I just gave up. After he left, I figured out if I stood on the stool, then I could see it but I’m not happy with it and I’ve already spent nearly $700 plus 100 to American Home Shield. If they come out again, they’ll say that they will replace it and it’ll be $400 so I’m living with it. That was not the fault of the AHS but the people they sent out. The contractors weren’t bad but they didn’t have any interest in helping me with the control panel. The air conditioning seems fine so far.

I like American Home Shield. It's a really good company. I submitted a claim for the AC and a few days after, Majestic Custom Heating & Air called me to schedule. The tech answered all my questions and the repair was super-quick. I was satisfied with it. My AC has been working well.
