American Home Shield replaced the fuse of my dryer that was not working. I submitted my claim online, which has always been easy. The contractor came out in the time that we expected him to come. He was very good in explaining the issue and what needed to be done. His quality of work was above average. Since then, my dryer has been working.

I'm a new American Home Shield customer and we're off to a good start. I submitted a claim to them online for a refrigerator that stopped working completely. The online process was efficient and the contractor they sent was very professional. The service call was quick, but the part took a few days. But as soon as that part got in, my refrigerator was back up and running within 24 hours, and I liked that. It's been perfect since then.

My experience with American Home Shield was very easy and it was everything that I signed up for. I had air condition issues where the house wouldn't cool and keep temperature. I filed the claim online and American Home Shield said that within 24 hours from my claim, I should hear from the contractor. I heard from On the Horizon HVAC the next day and they came out in a very timely manner. They were early, actually, and it was excellent dealing with the technician. He showed me what he did and since then, everything has been outstanding. That made our day-to-day a lot more comfortable.

We needed to have a locksmith come out. We submitted a claim with AHS then the contractor called us back the next day and we set up an appointment a few days later. The tech who came out was very professional and he did a great job. He rekeyed six locks within half an hour and was in and out. I paid the $75 deductible to AHS for the claim and they picked up everything else.
We contacted AHS again because the air conditioner compressor that sits outside decided it wanted to let go. They let us know of a contractor here in Topeka named H.D. Service and the techs were out a couple of days later. They did their check, found out what was wrong with it, and since then, we’ve been working off and on. It took at least 10 days to keep calling American Shield and we were getting several people. I’ve talked to five different people because most of them had no clue. And even though I would read them the reference number, my address, and my name, it was almost like I was starting a new claim every time, even though it wasn’t.
On top of that, most of them hardly spoke English. But they’re located in Memphis and it wasn’t like I was calling Indonesia or I was talking to India. When I'd ask to talk to their supervisor. I’d be on hold for 25 minutes and they would hang up. So, I was not impressed. Finally, when I got ahold of this person named Sheila, we got it all straightened out and the air conditioner was ordered today. Still, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. But I believe that currently we’re on the right track and they slated to have the new unit installed this Friday.

The valve in the tank was not working. On Friday afternoon, when it was flushed, I could hear the tank running but it would never fill back up with water. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield through my computer and the website navigation was easy. Everything was out there. I just clicked on it. I just wish there are some comments out there so I could explain more. Nonetheless, the process was easy. The only way to be able to flush the toilet through the weekend was to manually fill the tank up and it was like that all weekend until the contractor came out. He was there for 20 minutes and he had it done. He was very professional and very polite. He just changed out a valve and so far, everything is perfect.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. There was a time when my garage door opener broke. The motor went out and the spring was busted. Submitting a claim to AHS was easy and the contractors whom they sent were professional. They had to come back twice but still everything was fixed.

I made a claim for my dishwasher. When I tried to run a load of dishes, I pushed the door shut, but it wouldn’t close. It popped back open. I tried it several times and I didn’t understand what the problem was. So, I thought it was a broken latch. I then contacted American Home shield online. The contractor came out, and he saw that there was a piece that hangs from the top rack, that when it pushes into the back, it allows this thing to close. And he needed a new piece because mine was broken. So, he got it, took him a couple of days, and he came out and fixed it. He did a great job.
I also had an electrician come quite a while ago. I’ve had this guy from another company three times. He had always been awesome. He was very sharp and courteous, and he was easy to get along with. I’m very happy with people that they've sent out. The issue always, however, is: is it worth having American Home Shield given the amount of money I have to pay per year? In this case, I’ve had this appliance guy come out three times. So, even though I paid 75 bucks a shot, I probably recouped the amount of the cost having AHS. If I didn’t use them at all, it would be a bad investment. But if it gets really bad and something goes completely, then it’s worth it. Overall, my appliances are going fine now.

One time, my stove was making really awkward noises and my washing machine stopped draining. I used AHS's website to file a claim and they were prompt in their response. Their site was very easy to use too. Bay Appliances, AHS' contractor was excellent. They came out quickly to address the fan issue. The tech determined that there was a rock in there and took it out. He also determined that the issue with the washing machine was that the drum was out and it needed someone else to come out and fix it. He was communicative thorough and quick.

It was a really good and easy experience with American Home Shield.

The AC unit was not working so my husband called American Home Shield. The tech came and did a great job. My upstairs unit didn’t get done because I was told that the claim didn’t get turned over to AHS so I submitted another claim. So far, we ain’t got the AC done yet. I never in the past had to contact the people. But now, I have to call the people to see if they are gonna even come. It’s been over two or three weeks now. I got the e-mail about it. So far, I have not heard from anybody and I’m not happy with what’s going on. In the past, AHS's service was decent. But lately, I haven’t had a great experience with them.

I was having issues with my washer and dryer as well as my stove. Upon submitting a claim for them over the phone to American Home Shied, I found that their reps were very professional and that they got right to the point. One thing I didn't like however was the automated service as I like speaking to people. Still, once I explained what was going on, it didn’t take any time to get the service order in. The tech who came was thorough. He went right to the problem. We had a little trouble but then, he let us know about the parts he had to get and those were in stock. He picked them up, came right back Friday and took care of the problem. Everything has been working pretty well since.

My refrigerator hadn't been working for quite a while and it stopped cooling completely. The freezer wasn't freezing and it got worse and worse. I submitted the claim over the phone and the rep tried to get the technician out. I called her again on a Saturday evening and she checked it directly with the technician, but he never got it. Nothing happened until Wednesday so I had to put whatever I had into a cooler. Before the tech from All Home Appliance & Repair came, he called and said he'd be out within 30 minutes. When he was here, he told me that the problem was the solenoid to the motor. Then he said, "I hope I have one in the truck." He went out to the truck, he had one, and he put it in. He did a good job replacing the solenoid on the motor and the refrigerator really works excellently now. I now have a refrigerator that if I put ice cream in the freezer, it freezes. I'm thrilled. I'm also very satisfied with American Home Shield.

I was very satisfied with American Home Shield. We had a small fire at our home. A part of the cooktop ignited and damaged it. The cooktop people came out and determined that it was damaged beyond control, so they’re replacing it. And just last night, I ordered another cooktop. AHS was really great. They gave me different options and I went with what they suggested and it seemed to fit. The reps I've spoken with were good. I had some issues in the past. There was a delay in the follow-up. So, when we made a determination that it was something that needed to be replaced, it took about two weeks when we were able to reach a live person. So, that was a little delay in that. But other than that, the customer service is adequate. They are friendly, professional, helpful.

I call in claims because it’s the faster way. American Home Shield always provides information on who we have to call back, or when the company is gonna help us. That’s where it is so helpful. We had a problem with our sink wherein water didn’t go through. It was staying in the sink and it had been going on for a month. When the tech arrived, he was a very neat-looking guy. He brought his equipment and used some stuff that he brought with him to be sure that everything was clean under the sink and in the kitchen. Then, he installed his machine. It took him more than an hour because it was a hard case, but after he completed everything, he cleaned everything up. It was a very good experience.

The sump pump was broken and I called American Home Shield who asked me to get a sump pump with James W Dodd Plumbing and Heating. It was wonderful. Another issue we had was the microwave oven. It totally broke down and Sears came out. At first, they didn’t show up the day that they were supposed to and then, they did show up, but they said that they needed to order a part and I would have it within a week.
This was right before Thanksgiving and they didn't show up again. The rep at American Home Shield told me to buy a new microwave. While I thought it was very good, I was very upset with Sears, especially since about three weeks later just before Christmas, they called and said that the part was in. I told them that they were a day late. Then, my daughter reminded me that we have an issue. I thought our dryer was breaking down and I called American Home Shield and they sent out Sears again.
I complained about them sending out Sears, but this time, they sent out a very good guy. He was very pleasant and showed up on time. It turned out my dryer's outside part had become clogged because of laundry lint. He cleaned that out for me and fixed my problem. I've been very pleased with American Home Shield so far. They're responsive. It's ridiculous to be paying $75 a month to continue with them but I'm thinking about doing it. I never had a one-year warranty before and it turned out to be a very good experience for me.

I like submitting claims over the phone a lot better. That way, American Home Shield would know exactly what I'm talking about. Most recently, I filed a claim for the oven and my problem was with Sears getting someone out there. It took more than a month for somebody to come out to my home. First, it was a schedule where that was their time slot. So I said I would make myself available. But on that Saturday that the technician was supposed to come out, the weather was bad. So we got a call saying he had an emergency and he couldn't come out. So we had to reschedule but instead of them rescheduling, we had to call them back and it took another two weeks for someone to come out.
When the gentleman came out, I didn’t have a problem with him. He was real good. But it was another week before the part came in and right now, the part is still sitting on the floor in my house. He told me that because he ordered the part and it was coming here, it was gonna be another two weeks before he could come back and put it in. But he also explained to me that it's a piece that I can plug myself. He said that I had to cut the power off and I said okay. And all in all, I still think the warranty is a good service.

My dishwasher was 20 years old and worked fine until the point that it just stopped working. I called AHS and everybody was really nice, courteous, professional and efficient. Everything went very well. There were two contractors. The first one came out and tried to fix it. And again, he was very professional, efficient and he went right to work. He found one electronic problem and he replaced that, but it still wouldn’t work. When he checked the other motors and stuff in it, he said that both of the motors were burnt. So he told me I needed a new dishwasher. He listened to me when I was telling him about what happened.
AHS replaced the dishwasher and I didn’t know how to put the rinse agent in there because it wasn’t clear in the instructions on how to operate the machine. I also had not used one like that. The rep walked me through it. She answered all of my questions. All the stuff being just online, it doesn’t work for me because I can’t see very well, so I need good light and big, bold font, even on my phone. I can read it better when I got the newer phone, but even that is a couple of years old. I read what’s on paper and it’s much clearer for my vision. So I asked her if I could get something in print and she mailed it to me and I’ve gotten that since then. So now, I’ve got my owner’s manual in print. That was handled very well.

We’ve had a few small claims and the experience has been good. I typically file these claims online with American Home Shield and usually, the turnaround time is quick. Navigating their website is relatively easy and convenient. The technicians that they’ve sent have all been great. Most recently, a service for a washer and dryer was initially contracted through an appliance repair company but they were unable to come out. So, it was switched to Master Appliance and although the switch was a little time-consuming, they were prompt and they were quick to reply to get the appointment set up. The tech was professional and he was able to diagnose the issue. All in all, I’ve been really happy with American Home Shield.
I am happy that we were able to get everything worked out with your service calls. We look forward to assisting you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a great week.

American Home Shield contractor Absolute Comfort Air Conditioning & Heating did wrong diagnosis of my AC unit as bad compressor and I'm responsible for $1,120.00 to add 16 lbs of refrigerant. I call AHS and got permission for second opinion. The area licenced technician came & diagnosis as worn out contactor & need little refrigerant, and the COMPRESSOR is good. I immediately call AHS and informed that their contractor Absolute Comfort Air Conditioning diagnosis was wrong and than got approval for repair and AHS also confirmed for reimbursement.
When repair bill was submitted to AHS and after several emails exchange, AHS denied the reimbursement saying I did not replaced the compressor as diagnosed by their contractor Absolute Comfort Air Conditioning. I also offered American Home Shield to come and check the AC unit has good compressor. Only answer was why I did not change the compressor. So weird that AHS hiding the fault of their contractor Absolute Comfort Air Conditioning and wants us to pay for the good compressor. I'm very very dissatisfied and rank ZERO/ZERO to both American Home Shield and Absolute Comfort Air Conditioning.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Updated on 05/09/2019: NOT RESOLVED. 2 days later is exactly what I'm talking about. We received a text for the Tech stating he is on the way. The Tech's company call us to get credit card info because we are liable for $99 and all parts cost. Our response was this service call was through AHS and we have already paid $100. They responded that this appointments was made incorrectly and they would not be coming, even though they were minutes away. Looking at my phone right now, I have spent the last 14 minutes with AHS, mostly on hold. AHS made the appointment for me while I was on hold. I do not know who scheduled this appointment incorrectly. I was just told by AHS that they wish to make a 3rd appointment with this company!!!! Are you kidding me.
I asked for another service company and was told by AHS that AHS only change company if unable to fix my product. I'm told to rearrange my schedule again for a company who has not shown up 2x. NO ** way. Currently I'm at 26 minutes on hold waiting. You see, when I asked to speak to a manger, I received the go to response. "My manager is in a meeting right now and I will have them call you back in 1 hour." I explained that I was told this 3 days ago when this company did not show up the 1st time. Furthermore, no one call me back and I had to call AHS to get this 2nd appointment which ended in another no show. So, currently I have been on the phone for 34 minutes, mostly on hold, waiting to resolve 1 issue. This entire process started APRIL 30th.
Today is May 9th. After 37 minutes, mostly on hold, a manager finally got onto the phone. He is currently looking into finding a different service provider. My phone is showing I've been on the it for 55 minutes, mostly on hold. This is exactly why I titled my review, "How much is your time worth?" I have now been on hold, from the manager, for over 20 minutes without checking on me or giving me an update. Finished the call at 69m:17s. The manager, Jay **, said that there is only 1 company which can service me and I have to take a 3rd appointment with this company. He offered to reimburse my $100 service fee because of all the inconvenience. It's was a nice gesture. Given my now 5 or 6 call on this 1 claim, seems pretty empty. HOW MUCH IS YOUR TIME WORTH?
I did fold laundry and load the dishwasher. Getting pretty good and knowing how these calls are going to go. Following the original review on May 7th, I received an email from Stacy Williams at AHS. Stating AHS was concerned about my negative review and would like to contact me about resolving "customer complaints." I responded with my contact info within an 1 hour of receiving this email. A day and a half later, NO CALL.
Original Review: I have been a client of AHS for 4 years now. We have had 4 claims with them. First was the refrigerator which is still not fixed. 4 or more techs came out to fix it and could not figure out what was wrong with the water dispenser. 2nd was the double oven. The light was not coming on when you opened the door. The tech came to fix it and shorted the circuit board. After 2 months without an oven and many different techs trying to fix it, AHS cut us a check. 3rd was the washer. Was giving us a "LE" code. This was the best experience because the tech was very knowledge, which has been rare for our experiences.
Finally and currently our dishwasher was been turning off during washing. We shall see. Each one of these claims take multiple calls and many hours on the phone. When I state multiple call, I talking 4+ (except the washer). You will spend hours on the phone extremely frustrated at communication issues. Within my current claim, I had to explain the difference between a washer and dishwasher. I have been told "O-M-G" when trying to explain that the assigned tech does not service KitchenAid. I have waited on hold for over 37 minutes. I know this because I was texting my wife at the time. There has been a few 10 minute holds also.
I was guaranteed a manager call back within 1 hour which did not happen for over 24 hours. I ended up calling back. Currently, after the 1st tech canceled on the day of service, a 2nd appointment was made without my authorization which will not work. You need to determine what your time is worth when purchasing this warranty. I am a stay at home dad with a child that takes 2 hour naps. So I expect every phone call to take most of that time. We bought AHS because I have 2 1979 AC units which are covered. Once they blow up, I will never purchase again.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I took advantage of the $75 AC check, which seemed like a great deal. The rep came out and it was fine, other than the fact that he removed the filter and left it lying in the basement floor, which irritated my husband. Later, we had a question about the check and called the 800 number. The first woman raised her voice at me and then disconnected the call after saying she was transferring the call to her supervisor. The second woman managed to actually put me on hold... until I gave up 26 minutes later. On my third call, at which time I was livid, I managed to speak to a supervisor. He apologized for the abysmal customer service and said he would make sure the fee for the service was refunded, all I needed to do was call back the following day during normal business hours, and speak to someone in the department that handles the AC checks; he said he had noted in my file that he promised the refund and that I would have no problem.
However, when I spoke to yet another rep the next day, she said I would now need to speak to someone above her, in the authorization department, BUT that she foresaw no issue with the refund; I was told I would be contacted later that day by the person with whom I needed to speak. That was seven days ago, and I have received no such call. So, I called them about an hour ago, and was told that they were not going to issue the promised refund due to the fact that the technician had been to my house.
When I pointed out that I had at no point denied the fact that the man had been out, that the refund I was promised was due to God-awful customer relations, he cut me off and basically said there was nothing he could do. When I asked for his supervisor, I was informed that he was, very conveniently, in a "closed-door meeting" from which he could not be disturbed.
I've been paying these people $60 a month for the past 2 years to have them not only yell at me, hang up on me, and put me on hold for half an hour because they didn't want to deal with me, but also to have people in positions of some power in their chain of command blatantly lie to me. I would be better off panhandling in an intersection to pay for home appliance repair than continuing to send these people money.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

My washer has been broke for going on 2 months. My GE washer's bearing is out. The tech came and ordered the parts. All but one arrived immediately. 1 ($10 part) is on backorder. Since I received the other parts there is nothing AHS can do. I have called daily and chatted daily. I finally was able to push AHS to order the part (which I could have ordered from Amazon for $16 and had it delivered in 2 days). I have spent over $100 at the laundromat as well as countless hours on the phone and chatting. The part finally shipped after I pushed but it shipped to Texas instead of California, so I have gotten promises without a new tracking number. The stress and time this has caused is ridiculous. Just pay for the repairs yourself, AHS is a joke.

I had a problem with my heat/air unit. Scheduled a repair via the online service. Waited for the contractor to call to schedule the repair. After calling them & then waiting 2 days for them to call back with a time for repair they told me it would be 3 more days before they could come out. This happened to me the last time I needed repairs. In the heat of the South, waiting that long is unbearable (too hot). Decided to just go ahead & hire someone outside of the AHS contractor. Someone is coming out within the next 4 hours. AHS needs to check out their contractors to make sure they have enough technicians & also get more contractors to choose from. I'm considering cancelling my contract. Paying $80.00 +/- per month & then comparing the bill I pay myself with a good company, the repair comes to a lot less than the $1,000.00 per year I pay to AHS. I'm disgusted with AHS!

I had a problem with the air conditioner. I submitted a claim to AHS and two days later, the technician came out and checked it but he couldn't find anything wrong with it. And so, he said to change my thermostat and he said because of the Nest, sometimes they have glitches when it's cold. So they changed it, but we still had problems with the air conditioner. So we called them and they came back out. They fixed it and had no issues since. The technician was awesome as well. He called and he was supposed to be here between 11:00 and 3:00 and he came like two minutes after 11:00, top of appointment. However, we had to pay the coolant, 350. I wish AHS had this one covered. So, I wanted him back just in case the problem was something else that we had to deal with. We've had an experience where our washer was replaced and I was concerned because we got the washer and the dryer at the same time, so we might have to get the dryer replaced too. It took the technician a few days to come out, then he was able to diagnose the problem and fix the dryer. He took the time to utilize his skills, so that was pretty cool and we really appreciate the effort.
I've been dealing with AHS for four years now. I had another home warranty provider for many years. But we had another rental property and so I tried having AHS on one home because we were balancing the cost for two properties and they had a better price range structure. It was not a good experience the first time around with AHS and it was a little rocky at the start. The people at AHS weren't as professional then and if I called them for service before, it would take hours to get someone on the phone. But the company has made some adjustments. So far, it has been good with AHS and I would recommend them.
Good morning Stephanie,
Your feedback is more than appreciated. We are glad to hear about your experience and the dryer repairs that are complete.

American Home Shield sent Bear Plumbing for a plumbing issue and the guys broke one of the things on the shower in the guest room. I called AHS and told them it wasn’t broken before and the guys have left. They were gonna leave without even trying the shower after they were supposed to fix the nozzle. I had to force them to try it. The two workers were very disrespectful. AHS gave me a number to call and the name of a woman. I called her and she said she would look into it. I told her the whole story and she asked the company if they would come back out to look at the damage, and they said no. I told her that I have my own plumber that I use for things that are not covered under the insurance and given that she said she believed in what I was telling her, she asked me if I could have the plumber come out and give an estimate. So, I did. The woman very good at returning phone calls all the way up to that point.
I had my plumber come out and we left her a message but I never heard from her again. I left four or five messages, no return call, never called Frank, the plumber. It has been more than eight months. She originally said AHS would pay for it but I didn’t get paid for the repair. I’ve given up after a year. The estimate was for $700, which is not worth my time and stress. I still haven't fixed it because it’s in the guest room. When I’m gonna get it fixed, I’ll get my plumber to do it. Recently, the contractor from American Home Shield fixed the pool and that was good. The guy was nice and he was on time. He was also friendly and knew what he was doing. I was very happy. Normally, AHS is good but the other claim was frustrating. I wish there was something I could do to make AHS somehow responsible or at least stand up to what happened.

My AC unit and heat went out, and had to be replaced. I submitted a claim online and AHS was pretty quick. Someone got back to me in a reasonable time, but they didn’t come out in the same week because of my work schedule. When the guy came the first time, what I really liked about him was he was super knowledgeable. He helped me understand why it broke down, and he asked me other probing questions like how my electricity bill has been. I said it was crazy because I had a $600 bill one month in the house. I really love that he gave the education behind it.
The company that replaced the air conditioner actually came out and seen my system the year before, and it had a Freon leak. I had to pay out-of-pocket to get it recharged and I asked the guy then should I have to recharge my unit every year. He said, “No.” I submitted something then, but I just didn’t press the issue, but I told them then that something was wrong last year, but it wasn’t fixed. And so then, it just progressively got worse, and then, the air and heat was messed up.
After they left the first time, they had to get all the quotes and figure out what the out-of-pocket was because for sure I knew it wasn’t gonna be 100%. However, I felt like I had to keep calling. I had to call American Home Shield a couple of times to find out where my claim was for them to tell me how much it was so that I could get it fixed. But everything ended up getting taken care of. They were there all day from 10:30 to 7:00. And then, towards the end of the evening, they still ended up having to leave and go get another part because they have installed everything but the air wasn’t kicking high voltage. But everything is fine now. Also the contractors kept taking off their shoes in the house and I was like, “You really don’t have to do that.” They were super respectful. Other than the noise, because they had to do that, I could barely tell they were there because they were like the nicest people ever.
However, I recently closed my debit card, so I had to update my monthly recurring billing through a new card. And I don't know if it's the time of the month, but one time, it might have been my fault that the payment didn’t go through, but every time I call, it doesn’t debit from my account for four or five days. The payment didn’t process, so I thought I needed to do it again. They charged me twice but they had to refund me for it.
The only other thing that I would have liked was the explanation. They left me a long voicemail about why the out-of-pocket was however much it was. They didn’t tell me anything because I don’t really know all the things that they were saying were or were not covered. So, that piece was a little bit hazy, but not enough to where I'm like, “I wanna switch companies.” I still feel like it was reasonable being that I got the whole system replaced. The website also wasn’t super user-friendly. It was like having you wanna leave a review. There was just too many options instead of me just being able to fill out, “Hey, these are all the things that worked well.” But service-wise, for the most part, their service was good and timely.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield online for my dishwasher and that was very easy to do. As soon as I put the claim in online, I talked with the rep and he was very good. I got a response about the contractor that was coming out. The contractor gave me a call and gave me a time to expect the technician to come out. The technician was very nice and knowledgeable. He identified the problem and called it in. The longest part was waiting for AHS to answer the phone, but the technician had the dishwasher running when he left and its performance has been good since the repair. So, my experience with AHS was very good overall. The service came in handy and I'm glad that I got it when I did.

The tech came in and fixed it but while I was waiting for the parts to come in, the refrigerator started to make a knocking sound. AHS gave me a hard time about the knocking sound and it would have been two appointments with two charges, but the contractor said they would just send a tech out to fix the icemaker and then take it from there. The quality of service that I received from the technician was excellent. The icemaker has been completely repaired and since then, the performance has been excellent.

It was very easy to file a claim to American Home Shield online for the water heater. The contractor called and we set up an appointment. I'm on the second floor of a condominium and all of a sudden, the water heater went and I was lopping up water. I texted the contractor because I had his cell number. He called me and was over here within an hour. He was at another call, and they came in and drained the water heater. And got it down so that there would be no more water coming out and took care of everything very professionally. He was really good. I also had a claim with my furnace last Spring and the gentleman that was sent over fixed it that day, and he was very good as well.

So, I pressed 0, and they hung up on me. Then, I pressed another and and I had to sit through and listen to the whole menu. It takes too long for me. I want somebody to pick up the phone, I would tell them the problem and they would send someone out. Still, I submitted a claim for my icemaker and the part was replaced. When my air conditioner was not cooling, American Home Shield sent R Harris A/C & Heating out. The tech checked everything first and he asked if I had any maintenance done. He discovered initially that the AC was a bit overcharged. He said that there was too much pressure so we lowered the pressure by a pound. He was able to fix it and it worked for about 24 hours. Then, it stopped cooling again. He came back out and discovered that it was not only the problem. There was also another issue with the fan motor wherein it had gone out so he replaced the fan motor. I had Larry on both times and he was fantastic. I was very impressed with R Harris.
Both of the claims were filed over the phone. It was both very easy to do and it was responded very well. Although the first claim was frustrating. I called at 10:00 at night and the rep said that it would be 24 to 48 hours for somebody to call me with a schedule. To me, it was gonna put us into Friday. I told them it was not right. If it was two days to schedule me and then they schedule me two more days out, it goes through the week which was five or six days without an air conditioner. Then, he said that it will be within 24 hours. I was scheduled at 9:00 and R Harris contacted me and came out the next day. I was impressed with the response time of R Harris on both claims and how quickly they got the job done.
Since the second repair, the air conditioner is performing great. It made it much more comfortable to sleep. We have two units. The downstairs unit was working while the upstairs unit wasn’t. So, once the upstairs unit worked, it was great. I have had a fantastic experience with American Home Shield so far. I used to have a warranty previously with Choice but they did not handle a couple of issues very well. Also, the contractors that they sent over did not speak highly of them. There were some things that I thought should’ve been covered but they weren’t. So, I asked a couple of the contractors which warranty company they like working with the best and every one of them said American Home Shield, so I moved over to AHS and have been protected since January.

Our water was very smelly and discolored. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and I had a good interaction with the claims representatives. They said they would send somebody out. There had been some confusion though, and in their defense, this was kind of a glitch. The original payment was shorted and I think that that added some complications into what was going on. But everything went fine. Initially, they called the company. The company, however, kept delaying the appointment. They kept saying they had emergencies and they couldn’t come. We got three calls to delay it. On the last one, my husband said, “No, we're not delaying it anymore.”
Also, there was a lapse of time because of this payment that was shorted by $45. And I was told that it was paid. Finally, we figured out that it wasn’t. And so, I paid it yesterday, so it should be fine. Other than that, the service and the interaction I had with the contractor that was sent out by AHS was excellent. He knew his business, he got right to it, and explained what was going on. He couldn’t fix the issue. He said something needed to be replaced. So, we're still waiting for a replacement.
Sometimes, the right hand at Home Shield doesn’t necessarily know what the left hand is doing. It seems like there's some communication breakdown. One of the things that was very negative was talking to customer service. It was one of these third-party foreign type things and the people was part of what contributed to the breakdown in communication. We spent 15 minutes trying to verify because I said the account was in Paul and Shirley ** name, and this is an example of one obstacle, and they didn’t have that. It was in Paul’s name only. The rep couldn’t make the connection between Paul and Shirley **, and just Paul **.
It was a matter of people not understanding how things work. Another incident was about the rep saying, "Montgo Mary, Texas," and I said, “No, it's not in Montgo Mary. It's in Conroe.” He said he had it in Montgo Mary and I said, “Well, it's Montgomery, one word, Montgomery. Will you spell it for me?” And he finally spelled it and I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about.

We started having a leak last week and I made a claim online for the water leak on the pipes. My experience as far as filing a claim with American Home Shield was easy. Initially, I thought the leak was coming from the wall, so AHS assigned a company. It was called GG Construction and that company was great. The person was very responsive. He called me on Sunday and he showed up that day. They sent a technician on Monday and the technician checked it all on time in the morning. He said it was a slab leak and that it was not something that they could do.
After that, they made the arrangements themselves with American Home Shield to have somebody else that is specialized in slab leak to come. Two days after that, somebody else came and he spent around 15 minutes. He said it was a slab leak and he said somebody else was gonna come and check it out. The next day, somebody else from that company came. I wasn’t there, but I talked to him on the phone and he checked it. He said it was a slab leak, which we already knew at that point. He gave me two options. He said that because it was behind the cabinets and the kitchen, either we get the hammer or sledgehammer the concrete and get to the leak, or we can reroute it.
When he made the report, he only made one option available to American Home Shield. Somebody from American Home Shield called and said, “This is what he’s saying as far as you need to remove the cabinets and the countertops and all that.” I said, “If you guys give me something in writing.” After that, I’ve been trying to contact the plumber who came. He gave me two options, but he only gave one option to American Home Shield. When I was on the phone with him, I told him, “Did you identify which pipe is the one that is leaking? And what is it serving?” That was part of the diagnostic, but he didn’t know that. The other thing was the minimum that he could have done was he could have capped the areas that were leaking. Right now, we gotta close and open the water. Every time we open up the water to take a shower, it starts leaking, so it goes into the house. He could have done that.
I tried to get a hold of him, but we couldn’t. I called American Home Shield and I talked to a gentleman. However, I didn’t really like his approach. Another hour or so, I called back and I talked to a lady. She was so nice and went out of her way. She called the plumbing company, although I called around 20 past 5:00. This issue has been going on and as of today, we don’t have a resolution. I asked the gentleman from American Home Shield if he could give me a copy of his report, so we would know what the diagnostic was. We can’t really rely on somebody coming and telling us to dig everything and break everything and wonder, “Are there easier ways to do the job?” The tech diagnosed as having half an inch pipe leaking, but what I see is it is not that one. It is a different pipe that is leaking, and that is where we are. Nonetheless, I’ve had other issues and American Home Shield has been good.
Good afternoon Mohammad,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated! We are pleased to hear about your experience and the technicians that provided you with a great service experience.

My Whirlpool washing machine was spinning and bouncing all over the place but not doing what it needed to. It would stop in the middle of everything and make grinding noises. The first man that American Home Shield sent couldn’t find anything wrong with it because when he came out, it worked right. It never had before, for a couple of months, but it worked right. He told me I was basically making it up and I was very frustrated about it. I told them to either get it fixed or cancel my policy because I didn’t need someone coming to my home after I waited for half a day and telling me that I’m kind of off the wall. If I can’t get it fixed, what am I paying for? After he left, the washing machine didn’t work again.

I’ve been with American Home Shield going on 4 years now, and haven’t had an issue with them... Until now. Last month I contacted AHS for a leaking pipe and a foul smell emanating from my basement. The plumber sent out by AHS and repaired the bathroom line cleared out the stoppage from the main pipe. He stated the smell would go away.
I gave it about a week, and noticed the smell would come and go. A week and a half later, I noticed water soaking the floor in my basement once again and contacted AHS, who sent the same plumber back out. The main line that exits the water to the sewer was still stopped up, with a leak now coming down the kitchen pipe. He stated he needed to replace a piece of the pipe and would cost me $350. I was hesitant but agreed. Upon agreement to this price, he went to Home Depot to pick the piece needed.
While he was out, AHS informed me that I’m addition to the $350 charge, I would have to pay another AHS fee of $125 because this was considered a new claim, even though the stoppage issue wasn’t corrected in my initial visit! The AHS operator falsely claimed I waited 3 weeks in between visits, which was a complete lie! She would not authorize the plumber to come back from Home Depot to fix my issue until I agreed to give her my debit card info!
I gave my info to the operator but informed her I need to speak to a supervisor and she stated one would contact me. I have yet to hear from one. I’m really upset the way this was handled as I stated earlier I have never had an issue with this company. I pay my monthly fee on time, and yet I feel as if I’ve been scammed. I no longer recommend this company and am currently shopping for a new home warranty company who deserves my business.

My experience with the replacement of my water heater was horrible. To begin I placed a service request on the 19th of April 2019 and to date (May 6, 2019) I have not had the replacement performed. Additionally, I am being charged an additional $510 for "modification." Rehash, a monthly service fee of $90 plus a service fee of $100 and a "modification" fee of $510; and to add salt to the wound 2 weeks and 4 days later no one in the company can tell me when this water heater is able to be installed. A standard 40 gallon power-vented water heater. ALL AROUND POOR SERVICE...NOT WORTH THE INVESTMENT.

I had a water leak in the base of the water heater and I called American Home Shield over the phone to submit a claim. But at first, they thought I was submitting a claim was for my AC and they sent an AC technician out. I told them that they had the wrong one and that it should be for my water heater in the attic. So they got the right contractor.
Prior to that, I was also experiencing problems with my contract number. They said that my contract had expired and I couldn’t figure out why. They had called and told me that my contract was coming to an end, and when they asked if I wanted to renew it, I said yes. They kept going up every year on me though. But I’ve always renewed the contract over the phone and they had taken a draft out of my account every month. The rep even said okay and I had received a new contract in the mail, which stated a contract number. I also looked in my bank account where they had already drafted the $69 out for that month. Then I got a little angry because the rep was asking for proof. Why would I lie about something like that when I have it in black and white on my phone? It was right there and it had American Home Shield’s name on it.
So I had to get in contact with a supervisor which took forever and a day. Then come to find out, she was telling me the same thing. I told her that I was looking at the contract right in front of my face. It has my address and all the information on it, and it is good until 2020. Then I gave her my address and after she started typing on the information, she found the problem. They had sent me a new contract with the old contract number on it. Why couldn’t they see that though? Why did it take so long, with them knowing that they had taken that money out? But after we got that problem taken care of, they moved forward with getting the water heater replaced. And if I ever have any other kind of plumbing issues, I would really love to have that contractor, McLean Plumbing, to come back out.
McLean Plumbing had called and told me that they were gonna be out in between 1 o’clock and 4 o’clock, and they gave me a call about 15 minutes out from arriving at my house. The technician was very friendly and professional. He took his time explaining things to me and I like that. Once they verified that there was a leak, they said that they were gonna get in contact with AHS to make sure that they will pay for the water heater. The technician also said that I needed an expansion tank. I didn’t have that much knowledge on what an expansion tank was so he explained it to me. Then I called his office and they explained it to me as well. They also told me to go on YouTube to get a better understanding of, and I did. Since the repair, things have been outstanding. I’ve been checking the unit periodically to make sure that everything is okay and everything is great.
Hi Eddie,
Thank you for the feedback about your most recent experience to have the water heater repaired. Also, I am glad to hear that the customer service representative was able to rectify the errors with the contract renewal.

I couldn't prime my pump for my pool. I submitted a claim for it to American Home Shield and their rep was lovely. Working with the rep was easy and a tech from Aquatech came out almost immediately. We thought the appointment was gonna be after the weekend, and they were able to work it out for a late appointment on Friday, which was great. The tech did a great job. He was on time, thorough and he explained what he did. Since then, everything has been fine. I was also extremely pleased with the rep as she called to follow-up and make sure everything was working after the appointment. It was seamless good service and AHS exceeded my expectations.

About two weeks ago, I had someone come out because my refrigerator went out. I had to express the fact that it was something that was in dire need, so I wouldn’t lose my food. The AHS reps were able to get JB Appliances because they’re nearby and could come immediately. However, no one had reached out to me for 48 hours. I’m not sure if AHS processed the claim because I haven’t received an email or a text message as I normally would, letting me know that someone is on the way. Of course, I lost all of my food. I reached out to AHS and spoke with a customer service agent who told me that my claim was being sent over to a different department that replaces items. They transferred me over there and I stayed on the phone for 45 minutes before someone actually came to the line.
When someone came to the line, basically, it was a brush off. Of course, I got upset because I’ve lost all of my food and it’s now Friday and they were telling me that I would have to wait for two business days to hear back from the contractor when the customer service agent already told me that they already claimed it out. I asked to speak with a manager, because at this point, I’ve lost everything. There was no sense of urgency and I got upset. I was the one who reached out to them to ask them where we are now in this process. The wait time took another 45 minutes and the call ended up lasting almost two hours. The rep never got a manager on the phone. She finally took ownership and said, “I went to the department that it goes to, and they said that they’re not backed up.” But initially she told me, “Oh, it takes them two to three days because they’re so busy,” and that they’re not gonna get to me.
Finally, the rep got up, placed me on hold, spoke with someone in the department. She called me back and let me know that my claim has been processed and that she was sending me an email. She sent me an email saying what my refrigerator was worth and that I could either pick from the options that they provided or I can hit the link saying, “I didn’t like either of them.” If I selected one, it would take an additional 14 business days for me to get it. So, I took the option to just go purchase my own refrigerator because I needed one, and then I just emailed them the invoice.
If I didn’t demand that AHS put my situation as urgent, it wouldn’t have gotten done. I basically lost almost $200+ worth of food, which I had to go back and replace after I went out shopping for a new refrigerator, in which I had to spend my own money. Not everyone has $2,000 to go and try to find a refrigerator to replace the one that they have, try to get it delivered, and so forth. I purchased a brand-new one because you couldn’t purchase a used or a refurbished one. I had to charge $2,000 on my credit card for the refrigerator, which now, I still can’t get until it comes in because Sears is the only appliance company in Illinois that still sells brand-new appliances, and I still won’t have my refrigerator until the 18th. So, me and my family have been eating out and it is costing me even more money.
Overall, it was a terrible experience. And the fact that just two days ago, I had to call American Home Shield back because I’m cleaning and my washer, which is also a Kenmore that does the steam, for whatever reason I heard a pop, and my entire lid was shattered. I put in a claim for it but I never received anything. So, now, I have to follow up again to make sure that the claim has even been created because the normal process hasn’t been done like AHS normally does. In the past, AHS service has been good. But recently, the customer service has been extremely terrible. The lack of urgency that they give to their customers has not been great.
Kashonda,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you with an update regarding your request. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

When they did my preseason checkup, the contractor American Home Shield sent out discovered a problem with my fan. Then they called AHS, explained the problem, and they got it approved. I talked to the people there, and they had my credit card on file. So, I paid the service fee, and then he proceeded to fix the problem. They got it done in one day. The contractor was very professional and courteous. And they had their uniform. You could see who they were right away. I was real happy with them. AHS makes me feel safe. They make me feel like they know what they're doing. The whole process has been made easier. There was a time last year when we did it, and I paid them, and then there was a big problem getting American Home Shield to recognize that. I'm new to American Home Shield and it has been a good experience so far. I did some research and read that they were the largest and most reputable. Being the largest, where they can afford to stay afloat with operations, was important and what I was looking for. With AHS, I have peace of mind. I also like that they work with local contractors and are able to get contractors out quickly. When I submitted a claim to AHS to unclog a drain via their mobile website, it took 30 seconds and it was extremely easy. At that time, I was told when to expect contact from someone to arrange a time to come out. They said it could take up to 24, but we heard from someone within an hour. My tenant said everything went great and was quick. The contractor was very accommodating, nice, and there has been no occurrence of the issue. I would definitely recommend AHS.

My water pump was not working. I didn’t have any water. I had to make a couple of phone calls through American Home Shield. The communication was not all there and there was so much confusion. In order for me to get the stuff done, I had to call back maybe three times. The first rep didn’t really know what to do. She said it will take six hours for the request to be granted. And I said, “Do you understand that I do not have water? You know how important it is to have water. I have to flush my toilet. I have no water in the sink.” I also then had to miss two days of work with no pay because I didn’t have any water. They didn’t install it until Tuesday.
The contractors from Abbey Water Well Service, on the other hand, were great. They were professional and knowledgeable, and they did the best that they could to get me back up and running. They had to change the part, so they couldn’t do anything until the next day because they had to get the part. They had to replace the pump itself, and they had to change all the piping, too. Waiting was the hard part. And for me to be persistent, I have to be the one to call, which I didn’t like. Why do I have to be the one to call? I'm the customer.
They probably need to be a little bit more efficient, maybe with the time management. They can speed it up depending on the case. I know it's case-by-case. This is actually my second thing with them. The first one was my microwave oven, but, I also had to be persistent. I had to be the one calling. They should be on top of things and tell me what was going on because they make sure that they take their money every month and I paid. So, when I need it, I want it to be available.

We had AHS at two homes and at one home, they did a great job. The contractor tuned up the air conditioner. The second time he came and cleaned it, but he saw that the coils of one of the air conditioners needed to be cleaned. His name is Justin and he has been very nice. I was very pleased with him. He cleaned around the air conditioner and did a great job.
Now, we’ve had a plumbing issue previously and we let it sit because we had two different people come and had to pay twice. Both of them have a different idea, so now, we gotta get a third opinion or figure out something else because one guy said we might have a broken pipe underneath the whole house, and that’s very expensive and AHS doesn’t cover that. So we’re stuck in limbo. I wasn’t so sure about those both people that we used. The second one was okay. They were good. But the first one, I wasn’t pleased. But that was the only bad experience I’ve had. AHS had someone come out and fix our pool and they’ve done a good job every time. We’re pretty happy with everything else. When the pump broke the other day AHS had someone come out and fix that really quick. They've been good about coming out quickly.

One was when they came out but just threw parts and stuff, which was not great. I’ve got to go to the laundromat again this week to do laundry and I’m not happy about that. And when they replaced my hot water tank, which was terrible because I paid almost $700 out of my pocket. American Home Shield provides excellent service and they’re reliable. Plus, the rep that we always have is always awesome and pleasant. He always confuses my daughter with me, too. I would also tell others to get AHS because when you submit the ticket with them, within 48 hours, somebody’s at your house. We had some other contract with one other person, but I didn’t care for them too much because it took two to three weeks to get a repair. So, American Home Shield is top-of-the-line for me.
Recently, we had an issue at home where when we were using an appliance, the power would trip the breaker and the doorbell. We submitted a claim online with AHS and it was easy to do. It took not even three clicks and we were done. They assigned H&C Electric, LLC to our claim and the representative from H&C called us on the same day. Then I got the email support as well as the text message to let me know the tech was on the way. When the tech was 20 minutes out, he called us. He even called again when he was outside just to say he was outside. He was amazing. We had him before and he was always good. He was in and out real quick and at the time, we didn’t wanna waste too much time because we had somewhere to go.
He had to replace the doorbell completely. But on the resetting of the breaker, the ampage with the equipment that we use in the home wasn’t enough for the wattage. It was only 20 amp but we were over that with the use of the machine. My husband’s a chef, so his equipment used 15 by itself, not including the other appliances that were used during the time that would cause the breaker to throw. We have a second side that was not connected with that one main breaker, so we just had to shift some stuff around and put them towards the other outlet so it would be compatible. And everything has been working perfectly since then.

The evaporator fan of my refrigerator broke. It was making horrible, shrill, loud noises and never would stop. I could hear it through the whole house even at night. I was afraid to even turn it off. It was a grinding, rattling — and when it would shut down when it came to a certain temperature and start back up, it sounded like the gears were grinding and it was gonna explode. It was uncomfortable. We had to put up with that for about a week. I called American Home Shield and they sent a guy out. My refrigerator is a bottom freezer and the tech had to get down on the floor. He was a big guy and it was hard on him. He was there for a little while and the refrigerator stopped making the noise temporarily. He left and it started again within a short period of time.
We went to the third person from the same agency. He came in and was really friendly and talkative. He seemed to be doing stuff and plugged and unplugged the refrigerator four or five times to show me it was fixed. However, it wasn't long until the problem started again. I called American Home Shield and told them they needed to do something because I was unplugging my refrigerator at night and I had to put some bags of ice in there too. AHS called back and said they were gonna try another company. That guy came in and he disassembled the whole thing. He put it out and I could see the fan which was broken. My fridge is an expensive, older model and it's heavy duty. I really didn't wanna have to get a new one. Obviously, the first couple of techs didn’t know what they were doing. Still, he fixed it and it has been performing wonderfully since. It's cooling.

They were professional, they listened to me, they paid attention to what I was telling them, and they accomplished their task. I live in New England, where the winters are cold and heat is a necessity lest you want freezing children and burst water pipes. A few months ago I had an issue where the blower on my furnace stopped working and thanks to American Home Shield ("AHS") it only got worse from there. Thinking the warranty would provide me some benefit I called the service line at which point I was told that someone would either come out the following day otherwise it would be approximately three days...THREE DAYS! I called the service company to gauge whether or not the next day was feasible and they told me in all candor that they would not be able to make it out any earlier than three days from that point. I was stunned, to bridge 3 days without heat during the middle of the winter is not possible with modern plumbing.
As I spent my afternoon calling back and forth between the service company and AHS one thing became clear, nothing was getting fixed anytime soon. Instead I was forced to call a local service company which came out THAT AFTERNOON and fixed my problem. Of course AHS being the scam artists they are refuse to pay for any "out of service network repairs". I was really disappointed that I had thrown money down the toilet on AHS. They really are just interested in collecting your premiums and avoiding giving you anything in return. They even have a comical $100 service fee just to get someone to come out for a service call...do yourself a favor and save your money.
I can honestly say I feel that my premiums were a complete waste and that AHS in no way was interested in assisting me during the periods I needed them. I actually had another, unrelated issue with my HVAC which arose today and I will NOT be calling AHS this time. Why? Because I know all they want is to scam me out of a $100 on a service fee when to date I've given the company a few hundred dollars of premium and collected absolutely nothing. Best advice I can give you is to avoid AHS like the plague, because they are that bad.
Peter,

It was a Sunday and the first available appointment was Thursday, on the 25th. However, I didn’t end up having the contractor come out to service because they guaranteed to come out from 12 to 4. At two o’clock, I haven’t heard anything and usually, I would have. So, I called them and they said that my appointment wasn’t until the following Thursday, which was on the 2nd. I told them that it’s on the 25th and the woman at Comfort First was extremely rude. I immediately called AHS, told them what was going on and they immediately remedied the situation. They had a secondary contractor there that evening and said their apologies about the poor service of the first contractor who was already outside their guidelines. They were supposed to make an appointment within 48 hours, and then service within 48 hours.
The second contractor was CT Mechanical and Clinton, the technician, was fantastic. He came back the next day because he had to get the part. He went and picked up the part and put in Freon that was more cost-effective than the traditional Freon since everything leaked out. He was extremely helpful. We have had no issues since he repaired it. Once I was able to provide AHS the issue with the first contractor, they were quick to resolve it and immediately, put me in contact with someone that resolved the issue and made me whole, so I felt fine with it. I’ve had them for at least 10 years and I’m getting ready to renew for another year, so putting-kinda-your-money-where-your-mouth-is type of thing is important.

A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came and the service was very good. I was very impressed with the technician. He recommended that I have to change a filter for one of our system, and I did. He was very professional and I'm very happy for all of the service.

The guy from Sun Bright Pool Services handled my issue quite well. It was a leak in one of my valves, and he repaired it and corrected the problem. And everything’s been working since. I filed the claim for it with American Home Shield online. The process was simple. Also, the turnaround time was quick. The only thing is you can never reach anybody from American Home Shield. I’ve waited a half an hour, and nobody responds. So, I’ve given up and I don’t call any more.

There were a couple of people who were out of town and AHS really worked on to make sure they got me someone right away. It was awesome. Then, the contractor found out that it was the main board so they had to order the board which took five days. Once the board came in, I called them and they came out within two days. They did good and the refrigerator has been working fine since the repair.

American Home Shield has been very good to us. We woke up one morning and we had no water. They got a man out here by 8:30 and had a new well pump put in, and we had running water. Everything was fine by 11:30. I highly recommend the plumbing service, which was Hi-Tech Plumbing & Air, and Big Al’s Appliance. They were wonderful. The knowledge of the plumbing people was fantastic. The plumber came out and even did it in the rain, and it has been fine and wonderful.
Now recently, I had no freezer and everything went bad. The ice that was in the icemaker melted and it was a mess. I called American Home Shield and requested for service. The contractor had to replace the compressor, evaporator, and condenser because everything shut down. He replaced everything and they were fantastic. They came right out and worked around my husband’s schedule and worked with us with the dogs. They know people’s lives are not 9:00 to 5:00. Our household is a 24-hour house, so someone is up 24/7 in the house. I said, “I have to lay down, I’ll call you back when I get up,” and Big Al’s Appliance said, “That’s fine. Shoot me a text whenever you get up, then we’ll figure out.”
Everything was wonderful. They were very gracious and they came out on the weekend for us. The contractor had been here about three and a half months ago and he said, “Oh my god, I don’t understand why that would've happened.” The compressor burned up again, so he told us when he left that he would contact American Home Shield. Sherry called me and informed me that she was gonna get a hold of Big Al’s Appliance, talk to the owner, and she would call me back. She did and they felt that replacing the compressor again was a futile measure. She said that she was going to replace the whole unit, so they gave me an item number. We looked the item number up and I talked with Sears, and they have a delivery scheduled for the end of the week. The woman that I spoke with at Sears, Maydelle, told me that they are supposed to call me on Thursday night and give me a window for Friday delivery.
I can’t thank AHS enough because last January was the first time the freezer and refrigerator went and lost everything in it. Then, the water pump went and I also had a burner on the stove go. And now, the refrigerator is being replaced. I have given American Home Shield's name and number to two people and my in-laws use them. However, I was leery when I started looking at Facebook and at the people’s comments. But the first time I ever called, they took care of us immediately and the problem was rectified as soon as the parts came in. It was a very good experience for us and has been, so I disregard any of the bad reviews. As a matter of fact, every time I get a thing to do a survey to give a review for either Big Al’s or American Home Shield or the plumbing company, it is 5 stars across the board.

Glenn's Appliance Services came out for my dishwasher that was not working. It was not filling water. I could feel the heating element heating up, but then it was making this weird noise. I wanted to get it checked out. I called American Home Shield and said what was going on. It was a fine experience. And then, I received a text from Glenn's Appliance to schedule the visit and that they would call me within 24 hours after I made the appointment or after I requested the service.
The contractor's service was great. His name was Terry. He came in, assessed the problem and began to work on repairing it. They had to replace some seal. They had to order a part. When he came back in, he installed the part. He had to work with making sure that everything fit properly in order to get the dishwasher working again. And it's nice having an appliance working again and a little bit smoother. It was a process that was efficient and effective. American Home Shield allows for protection that you hope you never need, but it's nice to have when you need it. American Home Shield was part of the closing that my realtor did. It just seems like we're going back and forth to bring American Home Shield up to speed.
A part was ordered but we were going for an extended vacation and McLain Plumbing was going to call the person who was sitting our home. They tracked it and they said that the part was sent and delivered. But they don't show any date, time or who received it. So the question is where the parts are and I’m stuck in the middle right now. But I'm sure that American Home Shield will resolve it. But when we finally got a service appointment scheduled, they were completely wonderful. Their technician came out and fixed the issue. I had a thermocouple replaced in my gas furnace three months ago. Then the pilot light wouldn’t stay lit, so the technician came out and replaced the thermocouple again, then he ended up replacing the whole thermostat. So, it seems like I had to pay twice. But since the repair was made through a home warranty with AHS, I was not paying for the parts but for the service. The furnace seems to be working and everything seems pretty good now.

The other company that AHS used before said that they would come out but then they never did. I told AHS that time that I wasn't paying for the service because it would cost me $100 when they come out and I'm not gonna pay for something that they didn't come out and do.
This recent company that AHS used did exactly what they said they would do. They replaced the compressor and unfortunately dumped all the Freon out. I didn't like that AHS covers $10 per pound so I had to pay the rest of it which was over $800. Still, I was very pleased with the gentleman who came most recently. I had National Lock & Key come out to do a rekeying. I paid $75 for the tech to come. AHS paid for the rekey but then if there were any changes to a lock, I would have to pay for it. The person they sent was very knowledgeable and he suggested what can be done. He rekeyed three doors and changed the lock of one that I paid for.
My realtor suggested American Home Shield to me. However, they misinformed me. I thought it was like normal insurance like how I would have deductibles. Instead, it's about $500 to $600. If they give me an option, I'll choose the plan that suits me, like I'll pay $200 deductible then everything would be covered. If that's how insurance is, that every time I call out technicians they would come and say "oh this one's fine" or "oh you didn't do this right" then they would charge $75, what's the point of having insurance? The person who sold me the insurance didn't give me options to choose from.

This company is absolutely the worst, most unprofessional scam artists I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with, and wasting my money on. We have wasted 7 years of our money and time on this disgusting excuse for a company. We didn't request service on anything until about two years ago, when our heating units began to give our tenants issues. And, since then they have hired the worst contractors to come out to our house and scam us. AHS told us if they can't fix the units they'd replace them. Well, that's an absolute lie. They will do everything in their power to never replace anything. I have had to make a service call for our heating/ac units every two weeks for nearly the past year, and they STILL refuse to replace the units.
They have a scam with the contractors where they told me the replacement is at the call of the contractor, but the contractors (2 different ones) have told me AHS will not let them make that call, and it is up to the company. Well, of course the contractor isn't going to replace the units! They make so much money for having to come out every few weeks, and AHS isn't going to replace the units because they make money off of the customers every single time we have to place a service call! I'M BEYOND FED UP AND FURIOUS WITH THIS DISGUSTING COMPANY!!! NEVER EVER GO WITH AHS! You're better off not paying for a home warranty and saving up your own money and finding a good, trustworthy, reliable contractor to help you out when you need.

You have to fight with American Home Shield to get things done. I had them come out for a dishwasher repair. The technician they sent out told me I needed to have my house completely rewired. He never pulled the dishwasher out to examine it. Six years ago I had new wiring and then a new electrical box put in my home, and I had it done by a licensed contractor so I know he was lying. When I called out a private service because the insurance company wouldn’t send anybody else without charging me, the service person pulled out the dishwasher and the issue is that a mouse had eaten the waterline. So, every time we turned on the dishwasher, it was shutting off the electricity. I knew the mouse issue wasn’t a covered issue, but I was a little bit insulted that this electrician was trying to get me to insist I had to have my house rewired.
And then the second issue came at the same time. I called because my refrigerator compressor went out. It’s a recessed refrigerator. The first technician came out and said, “I can’t do anything about this. It’s not within my scope.” He shoved the refrigerator all the way back into the recessing. So, they sent out another technician and they denied the claim stating that it didn’t meet manufacturer’s specifications for air ventilation. I pulled out the refrigerator and I have 2.5 inches above and 2.5 inches below, and the specifications according to the manufacturers guidelines which I sent to the insurance company was 0.5 inch.
So, once again, I had to fight them for that and because I had the evidence because I measured it and showed them it had proper ventilation. Finally they agreed to cover it after multiple phone calls and arguments over. My biggest suggestion is that when going to quote manufacturer’s warranty guidelines, you should know them. Because the technician again, had he read the technical guidelines and pull out the tape measure, he would have seen it. 2.5 inches is way different than 0.5 inch. It’s like they look at somebody and take their vulnerability and think that we’re not going to validate the information. I’m sure there’s a lot consumers that don’t, but I did.
I also had a microwave that they refused to cover saying that it was due to negligence, and it wasn’t. It was a $75 microwave which was ridiculous because it was over the stove. We put in a couple water in there and it caught on fire. But they said it was because there was grease build-up. There was no grease build-up in there. There was a couple of water and there was a short in the microwave. We eventually found out there was a recall on these microwaves. But again, we’re lucky the house didn’t catch on fire. But the technicians that came out weren’t the best. That’s my biggest issue. AHS don’t hire the best contractors. And the contractors that do come out have no desire to do the job right.
But the last guy that came out, the plumber, was really nice. The person on the phone was really nice. I had a wall and a shower leak and they did a great job. The plumber was efficient and very knowledgeable. He confirmed what we thought it was, and that it was something we could repair ourselves. And we did it ourselves. I had a washing machine repaired. That experience went well, but it’s a 50-50. It’s something that I don’t even understand why. The only reason I've kept AHS is for in case something major and I can fight it, and because I know how to read and I can do my research. I heard they're all the same, that everybody else had to fight to get their stuff covered. And if you don’t know how to read your manufacturer’s warranty, they don’t cover anything.
Kay,

The dishwasher wasn’t working as it should. I submitted a claim by phone, as I usually do, and as any company, it's not that easy to get to a representative. You do, in the end, by pressing the right button and holding. It's all automated these days and getting a hold of somebody takes time. But with AHS, I generally spend two to three minutes on the phone before I get to speak with somebody. AHS sent Ashman and they came within 24 hours, and they needed a part that took three days. Sears, which they've sent out previously was utterly useless, but the other contractors that AHS have utilized have been fine. From a service standpoint, AHS is fine. However, they're on the expensive side. But taking everything into consideration, their service is good.

I have renters at my house and they said when they turned on the air conditioner, it didn’t work. They said they went outside to the unit and it was just making a buzzing sound. So, I called AHS to schedule the appointment and had them call the renters directly. They called the renters and they scheduled an appointment the very same day within a couple of hours or less, so it was really quick. And they came out on a Sunday and repaired the AC. It was a done deal. The only problem was that it was expensive because I have the $100 deductible, so I had to pay for that. But then the Freon was over $700 and I only got the information that I had to pay for that as I scheduled the service. So, I didn’t even know that that wasn’t going to be covered. I wish I had known that when I'd signed up for the plan. If I did, I might have had my neighbor take care of it, so it might have been less. Other than that, the service itself was really good.
I have AHS since last year and everything's been great except for one technician. We had a plumbing issue and one of the companies that they use was terrible. I even called and complained, so AHS got all that in their record. My renters were really unhappy with that service. It was for the dishwasher and the guy came out when it was scheduled then he had to order parts. But it ended up being a month of time went by with their dishwasher down because when the techs ordered the parts, they never called back to reschedule. I ended up calling and they said the parts were in. That would have been nice to know.
Then we had to schedule and they sent out somebody completely different who put the parts in. But the dishwasher still didn’t work. So, I ended up buying a new dishwasher and I didn’t even go back to AHS to see about them replacing it. I just went on my own to my own service guy and had him replace it. Then I spent $800 for that service. So, that was really not a good experience. But AHS was fine in handling their end of the service. It was the plumbing service that handled the dishwasher claim that was terrible. I paid the $100 service for that, but I didn’t want to pay another $100 to be told that I needed a new dishwasher, and I didn’t know if AHS was gonna cover it or not, so I just bought a new dishwasher.

So now, I'm waiting for them to come. They said the pipes that run from the machine or from the AC into the house inside the AC has froze. Today, I called AHS back for an appointment -- it will be from between 12:00 to 2:00 tomorrow. Overall, AHS is doing what they're supposed to do. But American Home Shield said, "No", because they already did the repairs.

They got on it right away. So, it's just getting both of the plumber and the person who has to open the wall, getting them together at one time to get the job done. They're supposed to come this Friday. My overall experience was pretty good. I would recommend them to anyone. It's definitely very helpful. I'm glad we got them.

I have two claims with American Home Shield and one was spectacular but for the second one, I’m still waiting for resolution. It is about a small cooler and it’s still not fixed. The guy came out and I don’t know what all he found but he recommended replacement but it still hasn’t been replaced yet. Last I talked to him, he said he’d taken measurements and he was just waiting for approval from American Home Shield to replace the unit. But I haven’t heard from anybody in a few days. I was gonna call them again in a couple of days if I don’t hear anything. But I keep hoping they’ll get the approval and get it done.
The first claim was about a lower heated element on the oven. The contractor came out and replaced it in a timely manner, and everything was great. When I called them to file the claim with American Home Shield, the representative was also very good. The property is a rental and the people were happy. The repair is still good now.

I’ve had AHS for 5 years now and the only experience I had with AHS that was not the most pleasant was when I wasn’t feeling the vibe of the techs that came out for an electrical outlet. On the other hand, I just filed a claim with them and they did an excellent job. Submitting claims with AHS is an easy process, I do it both online and on the phone, depending on the severity of the issue. So like with my recent claim, it’s 110 degrees and I had no air, so I wanted to talk with somebody. When I turned on the air, the AC was blowing warm air. American Home Shield had JW Heating and Air come out. They’ve been out here before on my air conditioner and they’ve always done a good job. Overall, I would recommend AHS. It's a good deal and on the first time you use it, it pays for itself.

There was something stuck in the InSinkErator, and I watched the videos online where you can fix it yourself, and I tried multiple times to fix it. And then the last time that I tried to turn it on, it started smoking. And so, I got in touch with American Home Shield and told them to send somebody out. The tech had to pull it completely out from underneath the sink, take it completely apart, and put it back together, and then it started working again. It was something I would not have been able to do. I submitted my claim online and it was really simple. And within 48 hours, the tech was out here. He was professional and courteous.

It was very easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield online. The blower of my AC wouldn't come on and the contractor that they sent out had it resolved within 10 minutes. Also, I understood exactly the issue. The technician was extremely professional and very personable. He had another guy with him who was training and they were both very polite and very quick. If I ever have an issue again, I would highly recommend that American Home Shield send the same contractor out. He was the best. This is my second year with American Home Shield and I’ve been very pleased. I would highly recommend it.

American Home Shield keeps trying to work on something that needs to just be fully replaced. The very first time I called them, it was about the bathroom exhaust fan which got really loud. It still blew, but nobody would use it. The techs tried to just replace the fan the first time, and I called back and said it got louder than it was before. So, they came back and replaced the motor. However, it’s like the whole thing needs to be replaced for it to actually be functional. We still don’t use it very often ‘cause it’s still loud even after they replaced the motor. I called and made sure I was not gonna be re-charged 'cause it's not free every time you make a phone call. I wasn’t re-charged and I was happy about that. But I possibly will still have to follow through with that ‘cause I’m not using it.

Also, if you don't make a claim in a year, American Home Shield should knock 10% percent off or 20% off the deductible. AHS said they would send out an emergent request to their contractors and if we did not hear back from them or one of their contractors within 7 hours we could hire our own and send them all of the information for reimbursement. We waited the 7 hours and contacted our own. They came out and we submitted all of the paperwork to AHS like they requested. We called to find out when the reimbursement would be sent and we were told 14 to 21 days.
In the meantime they took $100.00 out of my account for the service call. We waited 21 days, no reimbursement. We called again and the representative said we will receive it in another 14 to 21 days. We just called again after 21 days and are again being told 14 to 21 days for reimbursement. I made an appointment on 5/3/19 for a tech to fix a leaking tub and faucet in my house. The tech arrived and I advised him that we had noticed a bubble in the downstairs ceiling after turning on the upstairs tub faucet. The bubble broke and out came this water on to the floor. The tech told me that the company would not cover the repair because it was not “normal wear and tear”.
He thought it was due to someone trying to replace the drain and using excessive force and twisting open the pipe. He made this assessment after making a bigger hole in my ceiling to look at the underside of the tub. I advised him that the company also covered "improper repairs and installations." He stated he did not know anything about that and I would have to take it up with the company. I also told him that my husband had tried to fix the faucet in the sink and that the cartridge broke when he tried to get it out. He said they would not cover that either since it was not wear and tear. AHS company later called to state that they would not cover the repairs since the tech said it was not due to normal wear and tear. I read them their contract which states . . .
"Coverage under this contract also includes malfunctions of covered items which occur during the contract term resulting from the following situations prior to and during the contract term: a. Insufficient maintenance, rust, corrosion, or sediment; b. Improper installations, repairs, or modifications;" Then, I was told it was not covered because it had to be a repaired by a licensed tech. I told him that the contract does not say that. Then, they said they would not cover it because the tech did not say it was due to improper install. I informed them that the tech told me he thought it was due to excessive force while trying to put in a tub drain. The agent hung up on me. I called authorizations dept. and spoke with Lee, and he gave me the same information about not being covered because it was not normal wear and tear. I informed him about the contract coverage for improper install.
Then, Lee went on to say that they would not cover because it was not a licensed contractor that tried to fix the drain. I asked how he would know it was not a licensed contractor since we just bought the house and do not know who might have tried to fix it. Then, I told him that there is nothing in the contract about any exclusions based on who is trying to make the repair. Finally, he just said that they wouldn’t fix it because the tech didn’t specifically state it was due to improper repair.
I said that the tech didn’t know my contract covered improper install and he was only speaking to whether it was due to wear and tear. So, I asked Lee if I got the tech to call back and say it was due to improper repair – would they honor their contract? He said "NO". I asked if their tech were aware of my contract language so that he could know how to properly assess the situation. Lee stated that the tech does not have access to my contract and is not cognizant of it. So, I said that the tech could not make a proper assessment as to coverage. Also, even though I had stated my husband was trying to repair the sink faucet, they still would not cover it – even though it was clearly an improper repair. The end result is that they will not honor their contract and I would not trust them.
Rita,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with AHS. I will work to see if there are any other options and follow up with you as soon as possible with an update. Thanks for your patience.

I called today to request AC service- the contractor couldn't come out for 6 days. I called AHS to see if they could send someone else who could come sooner. I've spent nearly an hour and a half on the phone so far and have gotten multiple stories. They called contractor who confirmed they couldn't come out sooner. Then I was told they would cancel my request and reissue but when I asked for clarification on what would happen, a supervisor got on the phone to say they couldn't after all because it was in the 5 day window. I asked for her supervisor, who then said they could reissue to another contractor since it would be after 48 hours. In all, I've spoken with at least 4 people and got about that many stories. Still not sure if it will get fixed any sooner than 6 days. Still on hold and waiting... What a nightmare. Just signed up for this contract and regretting not staying with other home warranty company.

I was having an issue with my pool. When you turn the heater on, it was making a real crazy noise that it had never made in my entire life. And so, I called American Home Shield and told them, “Hey, I have a pool issue.” They said, “Okay. We’ll send somebody out.” And I got an e-mail or text message through the system, and then we set up a time for the guy to come out. Watertight Pools & Spas came out.
The guy come out and pulled my pool thing. First of all, I turned it on. He heard the noise. I didn’t stay out there the whole time, but he pulled the thing apart, and I had to run down to the bank and when I got back, he was getting ready to leave. He explained to me that it was getting too much gas to the heater. He turned something down so it didn’t get as much gas and that was going to correct the issue. Also, he said if it comes back, I have to call the gas company to come put another meter. Since then the orifice in the meter out there is letting too much gas get in to my system. And I was like, “Well, that meter’s been out there for a while.” So, that could make sense to me. Now, I don’t hear it making that noise. But, also, I don’t hear it pumping that much. I’ll have to check how fast it rises my temperature out now ‘cause it doen’t seem like there’s a lot of heat coming out the top like it normally is.
I've been with AHS for longer thaan year. I got them because I have a house that’s 20 years old. My Pool pump’s new, but it’s getting older. With the warranty, I can just call somebody for $100 and they fix. I don’t have to worry about it. I was totally satisfied with them getting somebody to come out here and look that out. This was the first experience I’ve had with them, and it was a good one.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was on the replacement of a washing machine. It started about two years ago, and it started making the same sound as the washer. And so, we called American Home Shield, and they said the shock absorbers were bad. So, the techs came in and they replaced the shock absorbers. And then, about three weeks later, it started making the same sound as the washer. So, we called them again, and they sent somebody else out, and they said, “Oh, my goodness, the whole inside of your washing machine are shut. They need to be replaced.” And so, they replaced all the insides.
About a year and a half later, my daughter told me that the washing machine wouldn’t drain the water and it started dancing all over the floor making the same sound as the washer. So, we called again, and the techs came out and fixed it. Three days later, it started leaking water all over the place. We called them, they came out, they took a look at it, and they called American Home Shield. American Home Shield then said they need to replace the washing machine.
The only thing that I don’t really agree within their policy is sometimes it's cheaper to replace the unit than it is to continually rebuild it. But they did a really good job. They replaced the washing machine. It's a top brand, so I appreciated that. I gave up the Maytag in the process. And they didn’t supply the pedestal, which is about the only thing that my wife had a real problem with. Maytag had a pedestal, and the Maytag pedestals and the GE pedestal don’t line up. And so, I called them, and they said, “Your pedestal isn't covered. Your washing machine is. But we'll sell you one.”
I've had one really bad experience with American Home Shield. I was out-of-town, and we had a problem with our air conditioning unit, and they had a vendor that came out and was very rude to my wife, talked down to her like she didn’t know what was going on. And so, when I got back into town, I called American Home Shield and I launched an earful to them about this one company, and they never sent them back again. They did a lot of customer input and support, so I appreciated that. American Home Shield could lower their price but they're fine. I always recommend them.

However, it required another process and I had to pay that out of pocket. So, the service call wasn't $75. It was an additional $125. There are a lot of small print exclusions to keep AHS from doing too much. While the plumber whom they sent was excellent, the fact that they charged for every different procedure that seemed to be standard process was not. I took more out of pocket than I should have so I wasn't fully satisfied.

The technician came on time, took care of the problem and cleaned up after himself. There’s a valve in the freezer section where the water is supposed to drain and they thought that a piece of ice got in there. So, it wasn’t allowing the water to drain in the unit and it was going on the floor. The contractor used a steamer and took care of the ice. He checked the coils because they were a mess and he cleaned that up for me as well. He didn’t need to do that so, he went over and above. He did a great job and I was very pleased with the service from Valley Appliance as well as with AHS because it was called in and it was taken care of quickly. It was my first time using the service and everything is working fine.

We recently had an issue with the AC, the fan wasn’t working, so when we turned on our air, there was nothing blowing out. We waited a few minutes, and still nothing. I went outside, checked the unit and you could hear it trying to kick on, but nothing was happening. So, I put in a ticket, tell them what’s wrong and within 30 minutes, I had a call from the contractor and they came out that afternoon, by that night, I had air.
So far, everyone at American Home Shield has been really great. I’ve been happy with the service and I’ve never had to talk to anybody. I go online, I put the ticket in and I get an email telling me who’s gonna contact me. And they usually contact me really quickly. They’ve been really good that I’ve already got a couple of people from my work switch over to AHS.

I had just purchased a house last year, so I decided to acquire a home warranty. I've been protected with American Home Shield coverage for six months now and I’m pleased so far. Recently, there was a leak under my sink from the faucet. I submitted a claim with AHS online and navigating through their website was easy. I instantly got a text message saying that I would be contacted to schedule an appointment, then someone called me an hour later. The contractor, B&K Plumbing, came out and their plumber was timely and very professional.
The leak had stopped by the time I made the claim and the plumber came. But he mentioned that it could come back at any time. Although it wasn’t a huge issue at that time, I didn’t want it to come back. The plumber provided detailed explanation on what was going on and then he fixed the issue. He showed me what he was going to do and told me what he did. Things have been performing great since he has been out and there are no more leaks.
The claim serviced by B&K Plumbing was the second claim I had with AHS. Prior to this, I filed a claim with them for my locks. I was called within a half hour or so and the service appointment was scheduled. The tech came out before the time that he had scheduled, which was fine, and he was very professional. He changed my locks and I was pleased with that.

My refrigerator was dripping water. I filed a claim with AHS and they sent out a tech from Kelly's Appliance Service. He diagnosed it immediately that I had a part that drains that was plugged inside the freezer. And so, it had backed up with frozen water and every time the defrosting cycle hits, it had nowhere to go and it poured out. He took care of it in an hour.
Usually, my experience with AHS' claims process has been pretty good. I tell them what the problem is and they give me information about who's gonna contact me. But I'm not very happy with Sears and I don't like getting them as much as GE people. Occasionally, I also have an issue getting hold of the actual party that's coming, but that's gotten better. That seemed to occur three years ago but the last few claims I had were completed like clockwork. I have an upcoming appointment for a leaky shower today and yesterday when I called AHS, they asked me on the phone to tell them more about the problem. Overall, AHS is good. I've been with their program for four years now and I'd recommend them.

We have had our policy with American Home Shield for many years and have never had to use it. We were convinced to take the 3x3 policy as it would cover all our appliances as well as heater and air, so we did thinking this would be the best option. It would cover us through the years on all the big stuff. This year we had to call them out to look at our over the stove microwave that stopped working. They sent a technician out that took one look at it, said it was over 10 years old and he would not be able to get parts to fix it. He said that he would be submitting that it be replaced. Cost to us for this was the 75.00 dollar fee. He left and a week went by with no word from anyone. I called and was told that it was not covered due to abnormal wear and tear.
I questioned this as it was totally incorrect. A ten year old microwave does not have abnormal wear and tear. It has age. We had never had any issues with it from the time of purchase. Sears serviced it for us in the beginning but once we got our Home Warranty policy and was told it was covered I let the Sears one go. AH agreed to send another company out for a second opinion, again at the cost of another 75.00 dollars. The second company came and laughed. The technician said that it was crazy to have sent him out at our expense again when the microwave was clearly old and needed to be replaced. Again, he left and we never heard a word from anyone. I again called the following week to find out that no one could tell me anything about the findings.
The next day I got a call from a third company that was being sent out to look at the microwave. I was now totally confused. Why three opinions on a broken microwave? I called and was told that they understood that a third opinion was not needed. They would cancel the appt and the microwave would be sent to the buy off dept for buy off amount. I could then use the buy off amount and get a new one to be installed. I just needed to wait for the buy off dept to call me and tell me how much they would cover for the new one. That was over a week ago. Today I called them.
The response I got, after two hours on the phone, three different people and being hung up on once, was that they would not be covering the microwave due to improper installation and abnormal wear and tear. I bought the microwave from Sears who also installed it at the time of purchase, so how could it be improperly installed? Conclusion is, after two months, two technicians, 150.00 spent, no phone calls from AH on any of this, I have cancelled my policy. I will buy my own microwave and have it installed.
They are very great at taking your money but customer service, and policy coverage stinks. When you pay for insurance only to have them deny the only claim you have ever put in is totally wrong. To tell me findings that are totally incorrect is dishonest. They are thieves and I hope that anyone reading this takes notes and chooses to insure with a company with honor, integrity and morals. Worst experience! Learned a great lesson with this one.

Our house is about 40 years old. We invested in the AHS warranty mainly for our HVAC units -both AC and heat back in 2015. With the age of the unit, we knew the time would probably come when something would need attention. Last weekend, our AC was blowing but the house was not cooling off. Immediately I sent a request into AHS to come check our unit. Once they came, they found that our furnace contained the cooling coils and that they had leaks and was therefore not getting to the proper channels to cool. The coils are an old-style type and apparently too old to be replaced and said that therefore, our entire furnace and AC unit would have to be replaced.
At this point, the repairman sent this information back to AHS. They later sent us a voicemail that said we had picked the heating and not AC, so none of this would be covered!! As stated at the beginning of this review, this is very hard to imagine as I specifically signed up with AHS for our heating AND A/C systems. I pulled my contract up and I see that heating is one of my "pick 10" selections, but there is no "A/C" showing. Again, I find this impossible. I KNOW I would never have not chosen the A/C as an option...yet somehow I chose "Smoke Detectors" as one of my 10??!! I think not. The bottom line is that there is an issue here and something feels very deceptive. We are getting no resolution and this has happened with other things and AHC in the past. (See prior post).
I will be cancelling our account and will make sure everyone knows not to use this company. I had this same type issue happen with my mom's house and system several years ago and the company that she had couldn't have been nicer. I only wish I had chosen them instead. I chose AHS because of my realtor status and they recommendations I and other realtors had given out to clients over the years. I will make sure that never happens again and I will share this very unfair, unfortunate and costly experience to my colleagues, clients and friends. Surely you can do better.

They reported findings to AHS. AHS denied our claim saying they can’t replace disposal and we are responsible for the problem. Did not help us to fix our problem and didn’t bother to inform us. We pay yearly premium to get relief if we have issues to have it fix by AHS. AHS Ended up saying either pay for full for disposal replacement charge or no solution. It was very disappointing experience and we ended up to fix that by ourself. So we have to fix problem by ourselves and top of that paid service charge for initial visit by contract company.

Updated on 05/17/2019: A NIGHTMARE TO GET ISSUES RESOLVED. I submitted a claim for a broken water heater. They sent a technician to review it and check it. He reported back to AHS that the water heater was broken. 4 days later the water heater supposedly arrived at the plumber's location. Upon arrival the plumber called me to indicate that American Home Shield sent the wrong one and that it would now take another three or four days for the item to arrive. I called American Home Shield and requested a cash in lieu buyout. They told me that someone would be calling between 24 and 48 hours.
The 24 to 48 hours came and went and now I find myself over 10 days later, without a water heater and without a buyout specification. I have spent numerous hours trying to get through to customer service, spoken to supervisors, and called and re-called to no avail. This company has all the markings of a scammer company. If you want to not go through this nightmare that I've been through, do not buy coverage from this company. They recently offered me a cash-out option. The amount is so low that I am going to still be out of pocket about $700.
On top of low-balling, they require receipts and proof after work has been done. I believe they do this only to stagnate and hold on to the customer's money. This is the reason why we buy insurance so that we won't be out of pocket for so much. American Home Shield is not shielding anybody but their own pockets. As an insurance agent I am not one to complain about any company because I know the cost of doing business is high. I must say, I'm so sorry I spend so much money in premiums with this company.
If you do buy coverage from this company when the claims come remember my words! If you don't want to go through it don't buy it. There are other reliable companies that are based in the United States. And when I say that I say it because they outsource their customer service to the Philippines. This was told to me by one of their own Tennessee workers. The Philippine workers will never admit to it because they have been trained to say that they are based out of Memphis, Tennessee. This is a bold lie! I cannot emphasize and re-emphasize enough... Do not buy from this company!
Original Review: Like many of you I have had my share of disappointments with this company. I've been a policy holder of American Home Shield for many years now and had the highest regard for them as a company, especially because they have, in the past (2009), resolved my claim. However, 5 days ago my water heater broke. The technician came fast very next morning and was able to receive an approval for a brand new water heater. He said that as soon as they get the heater shipped they would call and make an appointment and left. The plumber did not informed me to drain the water heater and because of this my basement flooded.
5 days later and I'm still waiting for it to be installed. They finally called and said that they would come tomorrow. I didn't know it should take 5 days for a water heater to be approved and installed when we have a Lowe's, a Home Depot, and other appliance stores so close by. Having this insurance is almost like a waste. I am so frustrated because I faithfully paid the premiums for so much inconvenience when the claim is made.
Good afternoon F Acosta,

My refrigerator was leaking. It gets clogged in the freezer section with ice and then it fills up with water and then it leaks. The contractor was absolutely great and professional. He came and fixed it. Submiting a claim online was pretty easy. The only problem I have with this American Home Shield, and maybe in the other company, is that they get people from out of town. If you have a plumbing problem, you're not gonna get somebody there that day and that annoys me. Then I've had some guy that was terrible and they kept sending him. At the point, he had to get a lot of bad reviews. As far as plumbing, I really use my own plumber most of the time, unless it's something big and then I'll use them.
I also got a new water heater last year with them, and, right now, I've not used the floor heater anymore. They didn’t send people who were familiar with floor heaters because they are old and these young kids that they send have no experience. So, I ended up not ever getting it fixed. It's just sitting there and I know that it probably is fine if somebody would turn the gas up, but nobody wanted to light it. They're all afraid to go light it. I told them to send somebody who knows, but they didn’t.

American Home Shield has been wonderful with sending someone out and getting the appliance fixed, but the internal workings has been terrible which includes billing, invoicing and following up. This thing with the $75 fee, they can't get that right. They got nobody that can do the accounting correctly. Now, they take your service payment when you call in instead of you paying the service person. It worked a lot better when you pay the service person because at least you knew you paid it and the service person knew you paid it. Then, they took care of it with American Home Shield and it wasn't a problem.
When they switched it to where you pay AHS when you are on the phone with them, they couldn’t keep track of their own records. After I paid them over the phone and the money came out of my account, they kept billing me for the $75 service fee forever and ever. They were gonna turn me over to collections and refused to renew my contract because they said I owe them 75. It went all the way up to the top before I finally got somebody to stop billing me.
I need the warranty and have the repairs done, and I've never had any trouble getting somebody to come out and fix something, which is wonderful. That works but it's this payment part that's crazy. I usually give it up and go for three payments. Then sometimes, I would get a discount and they tell me $75 would be taken off my total contract if I renew with them. I appreciate that. They would say that they're gonna take it off my second installment but then, they never take it off. I've got to call and say that they agreed to take off $75. Every year, this comes around and every time, I do a service call. It's horrendous.
So even though the service part of American Home Shield is top level, the accounting part makes me so crazy that I wish I was never with them. If I could find another company that would cover what I've got covered and the price would be reasonable, I would switch. Still, I would rather that American Home Shield fix their issue. Then it would be wonderful. Their customers would be way more satisfied if they could figure out their accounting system.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We’ve called American Home Shield twice. Once we had a blocked kitchen drain and once we had a blocked toilet. The first guy not only cleared both, but he even showed me what I can do on my own in the event that my kitchen drain gets stopped up again. The second person that showed up was not knowledgeable about it and had clearly never done plumbing before, which was bad. They were on the phone with their supervisor as they were walked through how to try to fix it. They left the problem, but it wasn’t solved. The $100 I spent for that was wasted money. Because I wasn’t happy about that, I went on Google and checked the reviews. Of course the reviews were terrible.
I had to call American Home Shield four different times, and it was frustrating trying to get someone to do exactly what I was asking for. We had someone coming out to look at the toilet when the sink had an issue, and I had to call four separate times because they just couldn’t get it right. At one point, they cancelled the toilet and added only the sink. I had to call them back, they cancelled the sink and added back the toilet. It took me having to speak to a supervisor just to do something like that, and it wasn’t like I was asking to do something that wasn’t right. They just had trouble understanding what I was asking for. That left a really bad taste in my mouth.
I had to call an actual plumber and spend another $85 to get it fixed. The other plumber figured out that I have a very old cleaning system which the main was hooked up to, but the cleaning system wasn’t even plugged in. So, it hadn't been working for quite some time. So, he bypassed the cleaning system and flipped some type of switch to bypass it, and that was all that was causing my water issues in the house.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

It was a pretty good experience. They finished the service well and we were able to get the problem resolved.

I file my claim to American Home Shield online and the process is easy. The technicians that AHS sent have been very good so far. Our pool was clogged at the motor and AHS sent someone from Aqua Blue Pool Services for service. The guy got the pool unclogged and he performed great. The pool has been running perfectly since the service.

I do everything online when it comes to American Home Shield such as when my air conditioner went out. The contractors were fine and they fixed the problems. So, I have no issues. Although in one of them, we had to do a complete replacement, the goal of AHS is to just pay to fix, which isn’t always the best solution to the problem. So, it ends up costing a lot more out of pocket than planned, when you think you have insurance.

I was having problems with the door closing completely. It would go all the way down just about and then pop up back open. I submitted a claim with AHS and they sent out Cactus Garage Doors. We discovered it was a piece of tape or film that was actually hitting the sensor. So there was a foam inside the garage door and we removed that. Then I had them do a maintenance on the door and I paid for that. I wasn’t sure whether American Home Shield paid for the rollers because the rollers was kinda going bad, so I just had them replaced and I didn’t say anything to American Home Shield about it. Other than that, the techs were prompt and the service was great.
I've been a member of American Home Shield with my first home for about 10 years and I kept rolling it over. They were having a problem about a year ago where they got a lot of calls, because I used to wait on the phone for about half an hour to 45 minutes to get to speak to somebody when I had questions about a repair. But lately, everything has been smooth. So, as of right now, I'm very happy with their service. I know there are a lot of other competitors out there, but I haven't had a problem with American Home Shield so far.

I had my annual cleaning of my HVAC system, and the technician told me that my capacitors were in imminent failure. I said it was good timing ‘cause you don’t wanna lose your air conditioning in the dead of summer around here. I called American Home Shield for that to see if they could come out and fix it. I was starting a vacation, so I had them postpone it a couple of days so that I could be here. Carolina Air came out on the first at my request, and they were brilliant. They replaced the capacitors and told me they could see they were in bad shape. It didn’t take them very long. Now everything is running, which is the important part. I've told all of my co-workers about AHS and what a good idea it is to be involved with a company like them because it really helps when you have these unexpected things. It’s money well spent.

Stacy in customer relations fixed my issues with the coverage I was promised. She was great to work with. Followed up regularly till all cleared up. I’ve had to use the warranty once on my AC and they took care of us. Highly recommend American Home Shield!

I went with this company as it was recommended by my son-in-law. The quote the rep Eric gave me wa the same price as what the second person gave me for a full coverage on the house. My air-conditioner, then, was making a funny noise. American Home Shield's contractor came out and looked at it, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. Last night the air-conditioner froze up and won't run. So we had it turned off. We're gonna have to leave it off while we're gone for two weeks because it doesn't work and nobody's gonna be there to get it looked at.
I submitted the claim over the phone. However, they said, "Well, you don't have appliance coverage." I said, "I've got full house coverage." And they said, "No, you don't." I was told I had full coverage. When they sign me up, they give me 3x3 systems plan instead of the 3x3 combo. And so I have been in talked with one of the representatives. I spent over four hours on the phone so far trying to get the coverage I was promised. And I was working with the lady out of Arizona, and she was gonna transfer me to her supervisor 'cause she said they listen to the phone call, and the phone call didn't say full coverage. And I told her, "I wanted to hear it myself." And she was gonna find out if I could get a copy of it. But I haven't heard anything back.
So at this point, I don't know that I'll go with the American Home Shield because I am very disappointed. Because I was promised the coverage and it was 600 and something dollars, minus $100 original fee, so it made it $538 for a combo coverage. And all I've got is a systems coverage. So I'm stuck with all these appliances that's not covered after I was told it was. I'm getting close to retirement, and a full house coverage is something I wanna start carrying every year for the rest of my life, and so I won't have to worry about this stuff when I get into retirement. It's pretty discouraging. After I told her I want a copy, they've never called me back.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

My air conditioner wasn’t working and the contractor AHS sent took care of the problem, so it worked really well. He was a very personable guy, very nice and took care of it right away. He called me like he was supposed to, and wanted me to meet him out there. He had to wait a few minutes, but he didn't complain about it.
Great Cody! That's what we like to hear. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your home warranty concerns. Have an amazing week.

I had a plumbing problem with the hot water heater. The water wasn't getting hot enough. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and had an easy experience. Their reps were courteous and friendly. The first guy they sent to me didn’t know what he was doing. He didn't put in the thermostat correctly so I had to go another day and a half without hot water. I had to call AHS back and they sent a second guy. He did a great job and the problem was fixed.

The first contractor that American Home Shield sent out claimed that he put a motor in my dryer, which he did not. He put a belt on my dryer. And after he came, the dryer went out in about three months. It was a week past the 90 days of wait period. So, I called American Home Shield back and did another service call. The first contractor made me waste $112 since I had to call back and get the second contractor come out and I had to repay it again.
When National Platinum Service came out, they said I needed a motor. So they put a motor and some wires in. After they left, I washed and the dryer sounded like an old car. They got the dryer to work but it just sounds so bad. I can bear with a loud noise, but not the noise that when it's in the kitchen, then I'm in my bedroom and I can still hear it. The tech said it was a defective motor. So, he ordered another one, and he told me when UPS or whoever bring it, to look in the box and make sure nothing is damaged, too. But overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. They're great. I talked to a lady representative two times with my dryer claim. It was so easy.

We had water backing up in the basement, and it was coming from the sump pump area, so we called it in. And when the contractor got here, he looked at it and it was another device that Home Shield didn’t cover. I wish I had known it wasn’t covered. We went on and had to have it done anyway. The same contractor did it. He went right at it and did a great job. He knew what he was doing. And we paid for it. But it’d be good to have a list of things that are covered and not instead of wasting everybody’s time calling them. The contractor said the same thing about it that they get this a lot and these things are not covered. But I’m very satisfied with the work and it’s been working fine. Also, it is simple filing a claim over the phone.
