I'm happy I got the service with American Home Shield. The first claim was for the re-keying and that was very good. The second one is the tune-up for spring. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came and the service was very good. I was very impressed with the technician. He recommended that I have to change a filter for one of our system, and I did. He was very professional and I'm very happy for all of the service.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for a dishwasher and had a very good interaction with the contractor who was very courteous and professional. However, they didn't take care of the dishwasher in one day. They replaced everything in it and it was still broken. Another contractor was sent out and they couldn't fix it too. A third one will be coming out tomorrow. Other than that, we've never had a problem with AHS and I've been very happy with them.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. Please rate us again once your issue has been resolved. Enjoy your day.

The gas regulator on our stove was broken so I couldn’t use it. Usually, I call to submit claims but I figured that I'd start with the online process since it's a little easier. I initially went online to set up an appointment with AHS and then it defaulted to Sears, but I wanted to get Optimum. We've worked with Optimum in the past on our dryer and microwave and they've always been very helpful so that's why we decided to go with them this time. I called back and spoke with someone from AHS and he was very helpful in getting it redirected to Optimum. It would be nice if I could indicate online if I wanted to go with my own person versus having it default.
Good morning Lenore,

My air conditioner's compressor went out. I submitted a claim to AHS and the gentleman who came out did the repair himself. He was very polite and clean while others whom AHS sent before were not. The other company that AHS used before said that they would come out but then they never did. I told AHS that time that I wasn't paying for the service because it would cost me $100 when they come out and I'm not gonna pay for something that they didn't come out and do.
This recent company that AHS used did exactly what they said they would do. They replaced the compressor and unfortunately dumped all the Freon out. I didn't like that AHS covers $10 per pound so I had to pay the rest of it which was over $800. Still, I was very pleased with the gentleman who came most recently. He called and made sure the time he would arrive was gonna be good and came when he said he was going to. He cleaned up after himself and was very nice.

My experience with American Home Shield has always been good. We had a claim recently that has something to do with my air conditioning. My husband was on the phone and AHS had a gentleman come out and repair it. It didn't take long to fix the problem and the air conditioning unit is now working fine.

When I had a heating issue, I called in to submit a claim with American Home Shield and that process was easy. AHS sent the contractor, Air Control Expert, but their schedule to work didn’t fit around my schedule. It was hard to fit in their schedule since I work from 8:00 to 6:00. But when we finally got a service appointment scheduled, they were completely wonderful. Their technician came out and fixed the issue. I had a thermocouple replaced in my gas furnace three months ago. Then the pilot light wouldn’t stay lit, so the technician came out and replaced the thermocouple again, then he ended up replacing the whole thermostat. So, it seems like I had to pay twice. But since the repair was made through a home warranty with AHS, I was not paying for the parts but for the service. The furnace seems to be working and everything seems pretty good now.

American Home Shield has been very good to us. We woke up one morning and we had no water. They got a man out here by 8:30 and had a new well pump put in, and we had running water. Everything was fine by 11:30. I highly recommend the plumbing service, which was Hi-Tech Plumbing & Air, and Big Al’s Appliance. They were wonderful. The knowledge of the plumbing people was fantastic. The plumber came out and even did it in the rain, and it has been fine and wonderful.
Now recently, I had no freezer and everything went bad. The ice that was in the icemaker melted and it was a mess. I called American Home Shield and requested for service. The contractor had to replace the compressor, evaporator, and condenser because everything shut down. He replaced everything and they were fantastic. They came right out and worked around my husband’s schedule and worked with us with the dogs. They know people’s lives are not 9:00 to 5:00. Our household is a 24-hour house, so someone is up 24/7 in the house. I said, “I have to lay down, I’ll call you back when I get up,” and Big Al’s Appliance said, “That’s fine. Shoot me a text whenever you get up, then we’ll figure out.”
Everything was wonderful. They were very gracious and they came out on the weekend for us. The contractor had been here about three and a half months ago and he said, “Oh my god, I don’t understand why that would've happened.” The compressor burned up again, so he told us when he left that he would contact American Home Shield. Sherry called me and informed me that she was gonna get a hold of Big Al’s Appliance, talk to the owner, and she would call me back. She did and they felt that replacing the compressor again was a futile measure. She said that she was going to replace the whole unit, so they gave me an item number. We looked the item number up and I talked with Sears, and they have a delivery scheduled for the end of the week. The woman that I spoke with at Sears, Maydelle, told me that they are supposed to call me on Thursday night and give me a window for Friday delivery.
I can’t thank AHS enough because last January was the first time the freezer and refrigerator went and lost everything in it. Then, the water pump went and I also had a burner on the stove go. And now, the refrigerator is being replaced. I have given American Home Shield's name and number to two people and my in-laws use them. However, I was leery when I started looking at Facebook and at the people’s comments. But the first time I ever called, they took care of us immediately and the problem was rectified as soon as the parts came in. It was a very good experience for us and has been, so I disregard any of the bad reviews. As a matter of fact, every time I get a thing to do a survey to give a review for either Big Al’s or American Home Shield or the plumbing company, it is 5 stars across the board.

The most recent claim we had was with our air-conditioning/heater, and that worked out great. The guy came out and diagnosed what the problem was. Then we were back up and running. But we've had another claim for the toilets and we have been working with McLain Plumbing, trying to get them to work. All the problem is not theirs though. It just seems like we're going back and forth to bring American Home Shield up to speed.
A part was ordered but we were going for an extended vacation and McLain Plumbing was going to call the person who was sitting our home. They tracked it and they said that the part was sent and delivered. But they don't show any date, time or who received it. So the question is where the parts are and I’m stuck in the middle right now. But I'm sure that American Home Shield will resolve it. They have done a good job in the past with other issues and I‘d still recommend them. The contractors they sent out in both cases were also good.
Good afternoon Peter,

I had National Lock & Key come out to do a rekeying. I paid $75 for the tech to come. AHS paid for the rekey but then if there were any changes to a lock, I would have to pay for it. The person they sent was very knowledgeable and he suggested what can be done. He rekeyed three doors and changed the lock of one that I paid for.
My realtor suggested American Home Shield to me. However, they misinformed me. I thought it was like normal insurance like how I would have deductibles. Instead, it's about $500 to $600. If they give me an option, I'll choose the plan that suits me, like I'll pay $200 deductible then everything would be covered. If that's how insurance is, that every time I call out technicians they would come and say "oh this one's fine" or "oh you didn't do this right" then they would charge $75, what's the point of having insurance? The person who sold me the insurance didn't give me options to choose from.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

It was extremely easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield online for my air conditioner. Their website gave me enough options to give what the details were and what was going on. The contractor came out really fast, within a day or two, and they were perfect and did everything they were supposed to do. They were courteous and wonderful. The tech was very professional and pretty quick. He explained what was causing the issue and he had the part that he needed. My air conditioner has been working perfectly since the repair.
On the other hand, I ordered service for my plumbing but I still haven't heard from the people who are supposed to be calling me. They emailed me and told me to reply to their email, and I did, but I haven't heard anything back. It’s not an emergency, though, so I’m not terribly concerned. I figured that I would give them till tomorrow and then try calling them directly. Nonetheless, I would recommend AHS.

Glenn's Appliance Services came out for my dishwasher that was not working. It was not filling water. I could feel the heating element heating up, but then it was making this weird noise. I wanted to get it checked out. I called American Home Shield and said what was going on. It was a fine experience. And then, I received a text from Glenn's Appliance to schedule the visit and that they would call me within 24 hours after I made the appointment or after I requested the service.
The contractor's service was great. His name was Terry. He came in, assessed the problem and began to work on repairing it. They had to replace some seal. They had to order a part. When he came back in, he installed the part. He had to work with making sure that everything fit properly in order to get the dishwasher working again. And it's nice having an appliance working again and a little bit smoother. It was a process that was efficient and effective. American Home Shield allows for protection that you hope you never need, but it's nice to have when you need it. American Home Shield was part of the closing that my realtor did. But my experience has been good, so I decided to continue with it.

This company is absolutely the worst, most unprofessional scam artists I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with, and wasting my money on. We have wasted 7 years of our money and time on this disgusting excuse for a company. We didn't request service on anything until about two years ago, when our heating units began to give our tenants issues. And, since then they have hired the worst contractors to come out to our house and scam us. AHS told us if they can't fix the units they'd replace them. Well, that's an absolute lie. They will do everything in their power to never replace anything. I have had to make a service call for our heating/ac units every two weeks for nearly the past year, and they STILL refuse to replace the units.
They have a scam with the contractors where they told me the replacement is at the call of the contractor, but the contractors (2 different ones) have told me AHS will not let them make that call, and it is up to the company. Well, of course the contractor isn't going to replace the units! They make so much money for having to come out every few weeks, and AHS isn't going to replace the units because they make money off of the customers every single time we have to place a service call! I'M BEYOND FED UP AND FURIOUS WITH THIS DISGUSTING COMPANY!!! NEVER EVER GO WITH AHS! You're better off not paying for a home warranty and saving up your own money and finding a good, trustworthy, reliable contractor to help you out when you need.

I have renters at my house and they said when they turned on the air conditioner, it didn’t work. They said they went outside to the unit and it was just making a buzzing sound. So, I called AHS to schedule the appointment and had them call the renters directly. They called the renters and they scheduled an appointment the very same day within a couple of hours or less, so it was really quick. And they came out on a Sunday and repaired the AC. It was a done deal. The only problem was that it was expensive because I have the $100 deductible, so I had to pay for that. But then the Freon was over $700 and I only got the information that I had to pay for that as I scheduled the service. So, I didn’t even know that that wasn’t going to be covered. I wish I had known that when I'd signed up for the plan. If I did, I might have had my neighbor take care of it, so it might have been less. Other than that, the service itself was really good.
I have AHS since last year and everything's been great except for one technician. We had a plumbing issue and one of the companies that they use was terrible. I even called and complained, so AHS got all that in their record. My renters were really unhappy with that service. It was for the dishwasher and the guy came out when it was scheduled then he had to order parts. But it ended up being a month of time went by with their dishwasher down because when the techs ordered the parts, they never called back to reschedule. I ended up calling and they said the parts were in. That would have been nice to know.
Then we had to schedule and they sent out somebody completely different who put the parts in. But the dishwasher still didn’t work. So, I ended up buying a new dishwasher and I didn’t even go back to AHS to see about them replacing it. I just went on my own to my own service guy and had him replace it. Then I spent $800 for that service. So, that was really not a good experience. But AHS was fine in handling their end of the service. It was the plumbing service that handled the dishwasher claim that was terrible. I paid the $100 service for that, but I didn’t want to pay another $100 to be told that I needed a new dishwasher, and I didn’t know if AHS was gonna cover it or not, so I just bought a new dishwasher.
Good morning Carrie,

My problem with my AC was not getting fixed. The contractor of American Home Shield came out and at first they said I had a leak up the top. So, it ran all the antifreeze out. So, they ended up having to put 12 pounds of R-22 in there. Then they came out, it was the fan was blowing out. So, they fixed the fan, too. Then the next day later, it froze up. So now, I'm waiting for them to come. They said the pipes that run from the machine or from the AC into the house inside the AC has froze. Today, I called AHS back for an appointment -- it will be from between 12:00 to 2:00 tomorrow. Overall, AHS is doing what they're supposed to do. I just don't know how they're gonna handle this AC unit because the first time the guy came out he was recommending a new unit. All of our plumbing is backed up right now, and we had a vendor come out. He didn't do much assessing, but he told us that there was a collapsed pipe under the slab, which wasn't true. There was no communication between American Home Shield and the first vendor so the warranty company didn't know their assessment. They were trying to get back with each other, trying to figure out what's going on and I was waiting on that for a couple of weeks. The second vendor came out and was able to find out within two minutes that there was a stoppage. It wasn't covered by AHS but I had it fixed. The rep was great and very professional. Plus, he helped me a lot. He has been trying to help me out with what he could do but he's limited on what he can help me with due to different coverage restrictions. The dishwasher wasn’t working as it should. I submitted a claim by phone, as I usually do, and as any company, it's not that easy to get to a representative. You do, in the end, by pressing the right button and holding. It's all automated these days and getting a hold of somebody takes time. But with AHS, I generally spend two to three minutes on the phone before I get to speak with somebody. AHS sent Ashman and they came within 24 hours, and they needed a part that took three days. Sears, which they've sent out previously was utterly useless, but the other contractors that AHS have utilized have been fine. From a service standpoint, AHS is fine. However, they're on the expensive side. But taking everything into consideration, their service is good.

You have to fight with American Home Shield to get things done. I had them come out for a dishwasher repair. The technician they sent out told me I needed to have my house completely rewired. He never pulled the dishwasher out to examine it. Six years ago I had new wiring and then a new electrical box put in my home, and I had it done by a licensed contractor so I know he was lying. When I called out a private service because the insurance company wouldn’t send anybody else without charging me, the service person pulled out the dishwasher and the issue is that a mouse had eaten the waterline. So, every time we turned on the dishwasher, it was shutting off the electricity. I knew the mouse issue wasn’t a covered issue, but I was a little bit insulted that this electrician was trying to get me to insist I had to have my house rewired.
And then the second issue came at the same time. I called because my refrigerator compressor went out. It’s a recessed refrigerator. The first technician came out and said, “I can’t do anything about this. It’s not within my scope.” He shoved the refrigerator all the way back into the recessing. So, they sent out another technician and they denied the claim stating that it didn’t meet manufacturer’s specifications for air ventilation. I pulled out the refrigerator and I have 2.5 inches above and 2.5 inches below, and the specifications according to the manufacturers guidelines which I sent to the insurance company was 0.5 inch.
So, once again, I had to fight them for that and because I had the evidence because I measured it and showed them it had proper ventilation. Finally they agreed to cover it after multiple phone calls and arguments over. My biggest suggestion is that when going to quote manufacturer’s warranty guidelines, you should know them. Because the technician again, had he read the technical guidelines and pull out the tape measure, he would have seen it. 2.5 inches is way different than 0.5 inch. It’s like they look at somebody and take their vulnerability and think that we’re not going to validate the information. I’m sure there’s a lot consumers that don’t, but I did.
I also had a microwave that they refused to cover saying that it was due to negligence, and it wasn’t. It was a $75 microwave which was ridiculous because it was over the stove. We put in a couple water in there and it caught on fire. But they said it was because there was grease build-up. There was no grease build-up in there. There was a couple of water and there was a short in the microwave. We eventually found out there was a recall on these microwaves. But again, we’re lucky the house didn’t catch on fire. But the technicians that came out weren’t the best. That’s my biggest issue. AHS don’t hire the best contractors. And the contractors that do come out have no desire to do the job right.
But the last guy that came out, the plumber, was really nice. The person on the phone was really nice. I had a wall and a shower leak and they did a great job. The plumber was efficient and very knowledgeable. He confirmed what we thought it was, and that it was something we could repair ourselves. And we did it ourselves. I had a washing machine repaired. That experience went well, but it’s a 50-50. It’s something that I don’t even understand why. The only reason I've kept AHS is for in case something major and I can fight it, and because I know how to read and I can do my research. I heard they're all the same, that everybody else had to fight to get their stuff covered. And if you don’t know how to read your manufacturer’s warranty, they don’t cover anything.

We talked with someone on the phone when we filed the claim, and the only thing was that they charged us upfront. Also, if you don't make a claim in a year, American Home Shield should knock 10% percent off or 20% off the deductible. Eco-Pro had to come out for our air conditioner that wasn’t turning on. The fan motor ended up being bad. My wife submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. They took within two hours to schedule someone out for the air conditioner, and three days for the pool heater. I had great interactions with the contractors they sent. They were only here for about an hour, and both the pool heater and air conditioner were fixed.

There was a time when my two outlets went out randomly in two different locations. When that happened, I submitted a claim online to AHS and it was really easy. Their contractor came out the next day. The tech went to the outlets and then the breaker and told me that I just needed to reset my breaker box. He also showed me how to reset it if the problem happened again.
Hi Jonnae,

I’ve had AHS for 5 years now and the only experience I had with AHS that was not the most pleasant was when I wasn’t feeling the vibe of the techs that came out for an electrical outlet. On the other hand, I just filed a claim with them and they did an excellent job. Submitting claims with AHS is an easy process, I do it both online and on the phone, depending on the severity of the issue. So like with my recent claim, it’s 110 degrees and I had no air, so I wanted to talk with somebody. When I turned on the air, the AC was blowing warm air. American Home Shield had JW Heating and Air come out. They’ve been out here before on my air conditioner and they’ve always done a good job. Overall, I would recommend AHS. It's a good deal and on the first time you use it, it pays for itself.

The contractor AHS sent for my microwave was good and quick. There wasn’t much he could do for me other than just telling them that it was completely broken. But he did what he said he was gonna do. It took a day over a week before my microwave got replaced. The experience was great, however the claim with my washing machine wasn't. But considering another company that I worked for, I would recommend AHS over that other company.

American Home Shield keeps trying to work on something that needs to just be fully replaced. The very first time I called them, it was about the bathroom exhaust fan which got really loud. It still blew, but nobody would use it. The techs tried to just replace the fan the first time, and I called back and said it got louder than it was before. So, they came back and replaced the motor. However, it’s like the whole thing needs to be replaced for it to actually be functional. We still don’t use it very often ‘cause it’s still loud even after they replaced the motor. I called and made sure I was not gonna be re-charged 'cause it's not free every time you make a phone call. I wasn’t re-charged and I was happy about that. But I possibly will still have to follow through with that ‘cause I’m not using it.

I submitted claims with American Home Shield online when the refrigerator water dispenser wasn't working, and also when the soap dispenser in the dishwasher wasn’t working. Navigating through their website was very easy. We were expected to wait for a phone call from the contractor. The contractor called two hours later and everything went fine. They’re coming out to re-repair the fridge. But otherwise, the dishwasher’s working fine. The appliances are much more helpful now. I've been with AHS for two months now and have had a very good experience with them. My in-laws have also used AHS before and have had good things to say about them.

Also, I understood exactly the issue. The technician was extremely professional and very personable. He had another guy with him who was training and they were both very polite and very quick. And then the last time that I tried to turn it on, it started smoking. And so, I got in touch with American Home Shield and told them to send somebody out. The tech had to pull it completely out from underneath the sink, take it completely apart, and put it back together, and then it started working again. I have two claims with American Home Shield and one was spectacular but for the second one, I’m still waiting for resolution. It is about a small cooler and it’s still not fixed. The guy came out and I don’t know what all he found but he recommended replacement but it still hasn’t been replaced yet. Last I talked to him, he said he’d taken measurements and he was just waiting for approval from American Home Shield to replace the unit. But I haven’t heard from anybody in a few days. I was gonna call them again in a couple of days if I don’t hear anything. But I keep hoping they’ll get the approval and get it done.
The first claim was about a lower heated element on the oven. The contractor came out and replaced it in a timely manner, and everything was great. When I called them to file the claim with American Home Shield, the representative was also very good. The property is a rental and the people were happy. The repair is still good now.

We had a plumbing emergency. After contacting AHS they gave us numbers of their plumbers to contact and they were not able to come out. AHS said they would send out an emergent request to their contractors and if we did not hear back from them or one of their contractors within 7 hours we could hire our own and send them all of the information for reimbursement. We waited the 7 hours and contacted our own. They came out and we submitted all of the paperwork to AHS like they requested. We called to find out when the reimbursement would be sent and we were told 14 to 21 days.
In the meantime they took $100.00 out of my account for the service call. We waited 21 days, no reimbursement. We called again and the representative said we will receive it in another 14 to 21 days. We just called again after 21 days and are again being told 14 to 21 days for reimbursement. They take money out of my account and do not have to provide me with an explanation but yet here we are 63 days later, and no reimbursement. This company is dishonest and are thieves.

I made an appointment on 5/3/19 for a tech to fix a leaking tub and faucet in my house. The tech arrived and I advised him that we had noticed a bubble in the downstairs ceiling after turning on the upstairs tub faucet. The bubble broke and out came this water on to the floor. The tech told me that the company would not cover the repair because it was not “normal wear and tear”.
He thought it was due to someone trying to replace the drain and using excessive force and twisting open the pipe. He made this assessment after making a bigger hole in my ceiling to look at the underside of the tub. I advised him that the company also covered "improper repairs and installations." He stated he did not know anything about that and I would have to take it up with the company. I also told him that my husband had tried to fix the faucet in the sink and that the cartridge broke when he tried to get it out. He said they would not cover that either since it was not wear and tear. AHS company later called to state that they would not cover the repairs since the tech said it was not due to normal wear and tear. I read them their contract which states . . .
"Coverage under this contract also includes malfunctions of covered items which occur during the contract term resulting from the following situations prior to and during the contract term: a. Insufficient maintenance, rust, corrosion, or sediment; b. Improper installations, repairs, or modifications;" Then, I was told it was not covered because it had to be a repaired by a licensed tech. I told him that the contract does not say that. Then, they said they would not cover it because the tech did not say it was due to improper install. I informed them that the tech told me he thought it was due to excessive force while trying to put in a tub drain. The agent hung up on me. I called authorizations dept. and spoke with Lee, and he gave me the same information about not being covered because it was not normal wear and tear. I informed him about the contract coverage for improper install.
Then, Lee went on to say that they would not cover because it was not a licensed contractor that tried to fix the drain. I asked how he would know it was not a licensed contractor since we just bought the house and do not know who might have tried to fix it. Then, I told him that there is nothing in the contract about any exclusions based on who is trying to make the repair. Finally, he just said that they wouldn’t fix it because the tech didn’t specifically state it was due to improper repair.
I said that the tech didn’t know my contract covered improper install and he was only speaking to whether it was due to wear and tear. So, I asked Lee if I got the tech to call back and say it was due to improper repair – would they honor their contract? He said "NO". I asked if their tech were aware of my contract language so that he could know how to properly assess the situation. Lee stated that the tech does not have access to my contract and is not cognizant of it. So, I said that the tech could not make a proper assessment as to coverage. Also, even though I had stated my husband was trying to repair the sink faucet, they still would not cover it – even though it was clearly an improper repair. The end result is that they will not honor their contract and I would not trust them.
Rita,

I called today to request AC service- the contractor couldn't come out for 6 days. I called AHS to see if they could send someone else who could come sooner. I've spent nearly an hour and a half on the phone so far and have gotten multiple stories. They called contractor who confirmed they couldn't come out sooner. Then I was told they would cancel my request and reissue but when I asked for clarification on what would happen, a supervisor got on the phone to say they couldn't after all because it was in the 5 day window. I asked for her supervisor, who then said they could reissue to another contractor since it would be after 48 hours. In all, I've spoken with at least 4 people and got about that many stories. Still not sure if it will get fixed any sooner than 6 days. Still on hold and waiting... What a nightmare. Just signed up for this contract and regretting not staying with other home warranty company.

There are a lot of small print exclusions to keep AHS from doing too much. While the plumber whom they sent was excellent, the fact that they charged for every different procedure that seemed to be standard process was not. They called me later in the day when they had a cancellation and they bumped my appointment up to earlier in the morning so, I appreciated that.
The technician came on time, took care of the problem and cleaned up after himself. There’s a valve in the freezer section where the water is supposed to drain and they thought that a piece of ice got in there. So, it wasn’t allowing the water to drain in the unit and it was going on the floor. The contractor used a steamer and took care of the ice. He checked the coils because they were a mess and he cleaned that up for me as well. He didn’t need to do that so, he went over and above. He did a great job and I was very pleased with the service from Valley Appliance as well as with AHS because it was called in and it was taken care of quickly. Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was on the replacement of a washing machine. It started about two years ago, and it started making the same sound as the washer. And so, we called American Home Shield, and they said the shock absorbers were bad. So, the techs came in and they replaced the shock absorbers. And then, about three weeks later, it started making the same sound as the washer. So, we called them again, and they sent somebody else out, and they said, “Oh, my goodness, the whole inside of your washing machine are shut. They need to be replaced.” And so, they replaced all the insides.
About a year and a half later, my daughter told me that the washing machine wouldn’t drain the water and it started dancing all over the floor making the same sound as the washer. So, we called again, and the techs came out and fixed it. Three days later, it started leaking water all over the place. We called them, they came out, they took a look at it, and they called American Home Shield. American Home Shield then said they need to replace the washing machine.
The only thing that I don’t really agree within their policy is sometimes it's cheaper to replace the unit than it is to continually rebuild it. But they did a really good job. They replaced the washing machine. It's a top brand, so I appreciated that. I gave up the Maytag in the process. And they didn’t supply the pedestal, which is about the only thing that my wife had a real problem with. Maytag had a pedestal, and the Maytag pedestals and the GE pedestal don’t line up. And so, I called them, and they said, “Your pedestal isn't covered. Your washing machine is. But we'll sell you one.”
I've had one really bad experience with American Home Shield. I was out-of-town, and we had a problem with our air conditioning unit, and they had a vendor that came out and was very rude to my wife, talked down to her like she didn’t know what was going on. And so, when I got back into town, I called American Home Shield and I launched an earful to them about this one company, and they never sent them back again. They did a lot of customer input and support, so I appreciated that. American Home Shield could lower their price but they're fine. I always recommend them.

And so, I called American Home Shield and told them, “Hey, I have a pool issue.” They said, “Okay. We’ll send somebody out.” And I got an e-mail or text message through the system, and then we set up a time for the guy to come out. Watertight Pools & Spas came out.
The guy come out and pulled my pool thing. First of all, I turned it on. He heard the noise. I didn’t stay out there the whole time, but he pulled the thing apart, and I had to run down to the bank and when I got back, he was getting ready to leave. He explained to me that it was getting too much gas to the heater. He turned something down so it didn’t get as much gas and that was going to correct the issue. Also, he said if it comes back, I have to call the gas company to come put another meter. Since then the orifice in the meter out there is letting too much gas get in to my system. And I was like, “Well, that meter’s been out there for a while.” So, that could make sense to me. Now, I don’t hear it making that noise. But, also, I don’t hear it pumping that much. I’ll have to check how fast it rises my temperature out now ‘cause it doen’t seem like there’s a lot of heat coming out the top like it normally is.
I've been with AHS for longer thaan year. I got them because I have a house that’s 20 years old. My Pool pump’s new, but it’s getting older. With the warranty, I can just call somebody for $100 and they fix. I don’t have to worry about it. I was totally satisfied with them getting somebody to come out here and look that out. This was the first experience I’ve had with them, and it was a good one.

I love the online claims submission process. That's what I do any time I need these guys. I just go online and do it. This time, we were having problems with the bathroom. The toilet had a leak in it and it also had to be bolted to the floor. Its bolts had broken. The contractor arrived within the timeline and got the toilet fixed. He was gone in no time at all and he even cleaned up the floor, so that was nice. The repair he did is going good and it allowed us to use that bathroom again. I also really enjoyed having this service and I have recommended the company to a lot of people. Every time I've contacted American Home Shield, they've been right there and people have come right out. So it's really appreciated.

I had just purchased a house last year, so I decided to acquire a home warranty. I've been protected with American Home Shield coverage for six months now and I’m pleased so far. Recently, there was a leak under my sink from the faucet. I submitted a claim with AHS online and navigating through their website was easy. I instantly got a text message saying that I would be contacted to schedule an appointment, then someone called me an hour later. The contractor, B&K Plumbing, came out and their plumber was timely and very professional.
The leak had stopped by the time I made the claim and the plumber came. But he mentioned that it could come back at any time. Although it wasn’t a huge issue at that time, I didn’t want it to come back. The plumber provided detailed explanation on what was going on and then he fixed the issue. He showed me what he was going to do and told me what he did. Things have been performing great since he has been out and there are no more leaks.
The claim serviced by B&K Plumbing was the second claim I had with AHS. Prior to this, I filed a claim with them for my locks. I was called within a half hour or so and the service appointment was scheduled. The tech came out before the time that he had scheduled, which was fine, and he was very professional. He changed my locks and I was pleased with that.

Over the last few months, our garage door has not been opening and closing when we press the button. It seemed as if there was a short somewhere. We put in the claim to American Home Shield and the guys from Exit Garage Doors game out that same day. The tech they sent was great.

My refrigerator was dripping water. I filed a claim with AHS and they sent out a tech from Kelly's Appliance Service. He diagnosed it immediately that I had a part that drains that was plugged inside the freezer. And so, it had backed up with frozen water and every time the defrosting cycle hits, it had nowhere to go and it poured out. He took care of it in an hour.
Usually, my experience with AHS' claims process has been pretty good. I tell them what the problem is and they give me information about who's gonna contact me. But I'm not very happy with Sears and I don't like getting them as much as GE people. Occasionally, I also have an issue getting hold of the actual party that's coming, but that's gotten better. That seemed to occur three years ago but the last few claims I had were completed like clockwork. I have an upcoming appointment for a leaky shower today and yesterday when I called AHS, they asked me on the phone to tell them more about the problem. Overall, AHS is good. I've been with their program for four years now and I'd recommend them.

We have had our policy with American Home Shield for many years and have never had to use it. We were convinced to take the 3x3 policy as it would cover all our appliances as well as heater and air, so we did thinking this would be the best option. It would cover us through the years on all the big stuff. This year we had to call them out to look at our over the stove microwave that stopped working. They sent a technician out that took one look at it, said it was over 10 years old and he would not be able to get parts to fix it. He said that he would be submitting that it be replaced. Cost to us for this was the 75.00 dollar fee. He left and a week went by with no word from anyone. I called and was told that it was not covered due to abnormal wear and tear.
I questioned this as it was totally incorrect. A ten year old microwave does not have abnormal wear and tear. It has age. We had never had any issues with it from the time of purchase. Sears serviced it for us in the beginning but once we got our Home Warranty policy and was told it was covered I let the Sears one go. AH agreed to send another company out for a second opinion, again at the cost of another 75.00 dollars. The second company came and laughed. The technician said that it was crazy to have sent him out at our expense again when the microwave was clearly old and needed to be replaced. Again, he left and we never heard a word from anyone. I again called the following week to find out that no one could tell me anything about the findings.
The next day I got a call from a third company that was being sent out to look at the microwave. I was now totally confused. Why three opinions on a broken microwave? I called and was told that they understood that a third opinion was not needed. They would cancel the appt and the microwave would be sent to the buy off dept for buy off amount. I could then use the buy off amount and get a new one to be installed. I just needed to wait for the buy off dept to call me and tell me how much they would cover for the new one. That was over a week ago. Today I called them.
The response I got, after two hours on the phone, three different people and being hung up on once, was that they would not be covering the microwave due to improper installation and abnormal wear and tear. I bought the microwave from Sears who also installed it at the time of purchase, so how could it be improperly installed? Conclusion is, after two months, two technicians, 150.00 spent, no phone calls from AH on any of this, I have cancelled my policy. I will buy my own microwave and have it installed.
They are very great at taking your money but customer service, and policy coverage stinks. When you pay for insurance only to have them deny the only claim you have ever put in is totally wrong. To tell me findings that are totally incorrect is dishonest. They are thieves and I hope that anyone reading this takes notes and chooses to insure with a company with honor, integrity and morals. Worst experience! Learned a great lesson with this one.

Our house is about 40 years old. We invested in the AHS warranty mainly for our HVAC units -both AC and heat back in 2015. With the age of the unit, we knew the time would probably come when something would need attention. Last weekend, our AC was blowing but the house was not cooling off. Immediately I sent a request into AHS to come check our unit. Once they came, they found that our furnace contained the cooling coils and that they had leaks and was therefore not getting to the proper channels to cool. The coils are an old-style type and apparently too old to be replaced and said that therefore, our entire furnace and AC unit would have to be replaced.
At this point, the repairman sent this information back to AHS. They later sent us a voicemail that said we had picked the heating and not AC, so none of this would be covered!! As stated at the beginning of this review, this is very hard to imagine as I specifically signed up with AHS for our heating AND A/C systems. I pulled my contract up and I see that heating is one of my "pick 10" selections, but there is no "A/C" showing. Again, I find this impossible. I KNOW I would never have not chosen the A/C as an option...yet somehow I chose "Smoke Detectors" as one of my 10??!! I think not. The bottom line is that there is an issue here and something feels very deceptive. We are getting no resolution and this has happened with other things and AHC in the past. (See prior post).
I will be cancelling our account and will make sure everyone knows not to use this company. I had this same type issue happen with my mom's house and system several years ago and the company that she had couldn't have been nicer. I only wish I had chosen them instead. I chose AHS because of my realtor status and they recommendations I and other realtors had given out to clients over the years. I will make sure that never happens again and I will share this very unfair, unfortunate and costly experience to my colleagues, clients and friends. Surely you can do better.

We pay yearly premium to get relief if we have issues to have it fix by AHS. AHS Ended up saying either pay for full for disposal replacement charge or no solution. It was very disappointing experience and we ended up to fix that by ourself. So we have to fix problem by ourselves and top of that paid service charge for initial visit by contract company.

Updated on 05/17/2019: A NIGHTMARE TO GET ISSUES RESOLVED. I submitted a claim for a broken water heater. They sent a technician to review it and check it. He reported back to AHS that the water heater was broken. 4 days later the water heater supposedly arrived at the plumber's location. Upon arrival the plumber called me to indicate that American Home Shield sent the wrong one and that it would now take another three or four days for the item to arrive. I called American Home Shield and requested a cash in lieu buyout. They told me that someone would be calling between 24 and 48 hours.
The 24 to 48 hours came and went and now I find myself over 10 days later, without a water heater and without a buyout specification. I have spent numerous hours trying to get through to customer service, spoken to supervisors, and called and re-called to no avail. This company has all the markings of a scammer company. If you want to not go through this nightmare that I've been through, do not buy coverage from this company. They recently offered me a cash-out option. The amount is so low that I am going to still be out of pocket about $700.
On top of low-balling, they require receipts and proof after work has been done. I believe they do this only to stagnate and hold on to the customer's money. This is the reason why we buy insurance so that we won't be out of pocket for so much. American Home Shield is not shielding anybody but their own pockets. As an insurance agent I am not one to complain about any company because I know the cost of doing business is high. I must say, I'm so sorry I spend so much money in premiums with this company.
If you do buy coverage from this company when the claims come remember my words! If you don't want to go through it don't buy it. There are other reliable companies that are based in the United States. And when I say that I say it because they outsource their customer service to the Philippines. This was told to me by one of their own Tennessee workers. The Philippine workers will never admit to it because they have been trained to say that they are based out of Memphis, Tennessee. This is a bold lie! I cannot emphasize and re-emphasize enough... Do not buy from this company!
Original Review: Like many of you I have had my share of disappointments with this company. I've been a policy holder of American Home Shield for many years now and had the highest regard for them as a company, especially because they have, in the past (2009), resolved my claim. However, 5 days ago my water heater broke. The technician came fast very next morning and was able to receive an approval for a brand new water heater. He said that as soon as they get the heater shipped they would call and make an appointment and left. The plumber did not informed me to drain the water heater and because of this my basement flooded.
5 days later and I'm still waiting for it to be installed. They finally called and said that they would come tomorrow. I didn't know it should take 5 days for a water heater to be approved and installed when we have a Lowe's, a Home Depot, and other appliance stores so close by. Having this insurance is almost like a waste. I am so frustrated because I faithfully paid the premiums for so much inconvenience when the claim is made.

Other than that, the techs were prompt and the service was great.
I've been a member of American Home Shield with my first home for about 10 years and I kept rolling it over. American Home Shield has been wonderful with sending someone out and getting the appliance fixed, but the internal workings has been terrible which includes billing, invoicing and following up. This thing with the $75 fee, they can't get that right. They got nobody that can do the accounting correctly. Now, they take your service payment when you call in instead of you paying the service person. It worked a lot better when you pay the service person because at least you knew you paid it and the service person knew you paid it. Then, they took care of it with American Home Shield and it wasn't a problem.
When they switched it to where you pay AHS when you are on the phone with them, they couldn’t keep track of their own records. After I paid them over the phone and the money came out of my account, they kept billing me for the $75 service fee forever and ever. They were gonna turn me over to collections and refused to renew my contract because they said I owe them 75. It went all the way up to the top before I finally got somebody to stop billing me.
I need the warranty and have the repairs done, and I've never had any trouble getting somebody to come out and fix something, which is wonderful. That works but it's this payment part that's crazy. I usually give it up and go for three payments. Then sometimes, I would get a discount and they tell me $75 would be taken off my total contract if I renew with them. I appreciate that. They would say that they're gonna take it off my second installment but then, they never take it off. I've got to call and say that they agreed to take off $75. Every year, this comes around and every time, I do a service call. It's horrendous.
So even though the service part of American Home Shield is top level, the accounting part makes me so crazy that I wish I was never with them. If I could find another company that would cover what I've got covered and the price would be reasonable, I would switch. Still, I would rather that American Home Shield fix their issue. Then it would be wonderful. Their customers would be way more satisfied if they could figure out their accounting system.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

The first contractor that American Home Shield sent out claimed that he put a motor in my dryer, which he did not. He put a belt on my dryer. And after he came, the dryer went out in about three months. It was a week past the 90 days of wait period. So, I called American Home Shield back and did another service call. The first contractor made me waste $112 since I had to call back and get the second contractor come out and I had to repay it again.
When National Platinum Service came out, they said I needed a motor. So they put a motor and some wires in. After they left, I washed and the dryer sounded like an old car. They got the dryer to work but it just sounds so bad. I can bear with a loud noise, but not the noise that when it's in the kitchen, then I'm in my bedroom and I can still hear it. The tech said it was a defective motor. So, he ordered another one, and he told me when UPS or whoever bring it, to look in the box and make sure nothing is damaged, too. We’ve called American Home Shield twice. Once we had a blocked kitchen drain and once we had a blocked toilet. The first guy not only cleared both, but he even showed me what I can do on my own in the event that my kitchen drain gets stopped up again. The second person that showed up was not knowledgeable about it and had clearly never done plumbing before, which was bad. They were on the phone with their supervisor as they were walked through how to try to fix it. They left the problem, but it wasn’t solved. The $100 I spent for that was wasted money. Because I wasn’t happy about that, I went on Google and checked the reviews. Of course the reviews were terrible.
I had to call American Home Shield four different times, and it was frustrating trying to get someone to do exactly what I was asking for. We had someone coming out to look at the toilet when the sink had an issue, and I had to call four separate times because they just couldn’t get it right. At one point, they cancelled the toilet and added only the sink. I had to call them back, they cancelled the sink and added back the toilet. It took me having to speak to a supervisor just to do something like that, and it wasn’t like I was asking to do something that wasn’t right. They just had trouble understanding what I was asking for. That left a really bad taste in my mouth.
I had to call an actual plumber and spend another $85 to get it fixed. The other plumber figured out that I have a very old cleaning system which the main was hooked up to, but the cleaning system wasn’t even plugged in. So, it hadn't been working for quite some time. So, he bypassed the cleaning system and flipped some type of switch to bypass it, and that was all that was causing my water issues in the house.

My refrigerator was leaking. It gets clogged in the freezer section with ice and then it fills up with water and then it leaks. The contractor was absolutely great and professional. He came and fixed it. Submiting a claim online was pretty easy. The only problem I have with this American Home Shield, and maybe in the other company, is that they get people from out of town. If you have a plumbing problem, you're not gonna get somebody there that day and that annoys me. Then I've had some guy that was terrible and they kept sending him. At the point, he had to get a lot of bad reviews. As far as plumbing, I really use my own plumber most of the time, unless it's something big and then I'll use them.
I also got a new water heater last year with them, and, right now, I've not used the floor heater anymore. They didn’t send people who were familiar with floor heaters because they are old and these young kids that they send have no experience. So, I ended up not ever getting it fixed. It's just sitting there and I know that it probably is fine if somebody would turn the gas up, but nobody wanted to light it. They're all afraid to go light it. I told them to send somebody who knows, but they didn’t.

We had water backing up in the basement, and it was coming from the sump pump area, so we called it in. And when the contractor got here, he looked at it and it was another device that Home Shield didn’t cover. I wish I had known it wasn’t covered. We went on and had to have it done anyway. The same contractor did it. He went right at it and did a great job. He knew what he was doing. And we paid for it. But it’d be good to have a list of things that are covered and not instead of wasting everybody’s time calling them. The contractor said the same thing about it that they get this a lot and these things are not covered. But I’m very satisfied with the work and it’s been working fine. Also, it is simple filing a claim over the phone.

I went with this company as it was recommended by my son-in-law. The quote the rep Eric gave me wa the same price as what the second person gave me for a full coverage on the house. My air-conditioner, then, was making a funny noise. American Home Shield's contractor came out and looked at it, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. Last night the air-conditioner froze up and won't run. So we had it turned off. We're gonna have to leave it off while we're gone for two weeks because it doesn't work and nobody's gonna be there to get it looked at.
I submitted the claim over the phone. However, they said, "Well, you don't have appliance coverage." I said, "I've got full house coverage." And they said, "No, you don't." I was told I had full coverage. When they sign me up, they give me 3x3 systems plan instead of the 3x3 combo. And so I have been in talked with one of the representatives. I spent over four hours on the phone so far trying to get the coverage I was promised. And I was working with the lady out of Arizona, and she was gonna transfer me to her supervisor 'cause she said they listen to the phone call, and the phone call didn't say full coverage. And I told her, "I wanted to hear it myself." And she was gonna find out if I could get a copy of it. But I haven't heard anything back.
So at this point, I don't know that I'll go with the American Home Shield because I am very disappointed. Because I was promised the coverage and it was 600 and something dollars, minus $100 original fee, so it made it $538 for a combo coverage. And all I've got is a systems coverage. So I'm stuck with all these appliances that's not covered after I was told it was. I'm getting close to retirement, and a full house coverage is something I wanna start carrying every year for the rest of my life, and so I won't have to worry about this stuff when I get into retirement. It's pretty discouraging. After I told her I want a copy, they've never called me back.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I had my annual cleaning of my HVAC system, and the technician told me that my capacitors were in imminent failure. I said it was good timing ‘cause you don’t wanna lose your air conditioning in the dead of summer around here. I called American Home Shield for that to see if they could come out and fix it. I was starting a vacation, so I had them postpone it a couple of days so that I could be here. Carolina Air came out on the first at my request, and they were brilliant. They replaced the capacitors and told me they could see they were in bad shape. It didn’t take them very long. Now everything is running, which is the important part. I've told all of my co-workers about AHS and what a good idea it is to be involved with a company like them because it really helps when you have these unexpected things. It’s money well spent.

When we had a problem with our kitchen sink faucet, I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. And then the representative from RDN Plumbing who originally took the call was outstanding. The person who came out and did the repair was very good. He told us that he would have to order a new part, how long it would take for the new part to come in, and he did a good job of fixing it. RDN Plumbing went out of their way to make sure that they did it whenever we needed them to do it. They did it promptly. They changed their schedule in order to accommodate us. We've had other claims and quite often, with these kind of companies on the warranty, they don't go the extra mile for you. But these people did.

Once we went through the process and once we learned the part was no longer available, American Home Shield acted in a very reasonable time and they didn’t fight with me at all for the replacement. I had to wait on hold for a long time though when I called for the initial service request but other than that, the contractors that they’ve sent have been really good. They wanted to send an HVAC guy in, and that’s when I called American Home Shield. Submitting my claim to AHS was very easy. I was very pleased with American Home Shield and Island Breeze HVAC.
Their tech Nix, went above and beyond because they had overbooked him. Island Breeze had already called me saying he wasn’t gonna be able to come out the day that was scheduled but he'd come out first thing the next day. Still, the tech said that he wasn't gonna get home till late anyway and asked if we could let him see what we needed. That was really nice. When he came and took a look up in the attic, he took pictures and invited me to come up. It was dry as a bone. I was very pleased with his professionalism.

If I call in a request with AHS, it seems like it’s always a week or so for anybody to come out. My pet peeve is for instance if I had a leak or a clogged up drain, they come out a week later. I gotta fix that. I couldn’t wash clothes, wash dishes or use the sink. The tech that came out was really nice and professional about his business, but it looked like he was just trying to do the least he could to fix the problem. When the washing machine guy came out, as soon as he hooked it up again, it did the same thing. And the plumber came back out again and he ran a snake down the drain, and he said it was fixed again. When the washing machine guy came back out again, it still wasn’t fixed. The third time he came out, he finally put a snake into the external cleanout system and that fixed the problem. If he had did that the first time he came out, he wouldn’t have to come back.
When I told AHS about the leak under the sink a different tech came out and he was really nice and professional, and fixed the problem right on the spot. Now, the electrician, I have a overhead porcelain light fixture in the ceiling, you pull a chain, an on-off switch. When he came out the first time he said he had to order parts. And then when he came back out he had a little screw-in socket. It worked, but I was expecting to fix the whole fixture up there, put a new fixture in or whatever it took. I went down to Walmart or somewhere and bought that part probably for less than $5 and did it myself, but because it was electrical, I didn’t wanna take any chances with it. I don’t know what he charged AHS for that, but I hope he didn’t charge them over $5 for that part.

The washer wasn’t working and called it in to American Home Shield. I did it online on my phone and it was easy. I was given some dates and times, and I picked the time and date that I wanted. The contractor came within a short period of time. I was given 8:00 in the morning to 12:00, and he was there by 8:00 AM. It was great. He called me as soon as he got there and let me know exactly what he was doing. Once he figured out the problem, he let me know what it was, and then he told me what he was gonna have to do. As soon as it was completed, he let me know that he tested it. He was in and out of there in less than an hour and a half. I can do the laundry now and it’s nice to have the washer working.

I had a claim on a garbage disposal that was malfunctioning. There was no power to it. I would flip the switch and I would just hear a buzzing noise. So, I had gone underneath the disposal and put an Allen wrench in and was able to turn the blade. But it still wasn’t functioning so I knew there was nothing stuck in there because the blade would turn. When the first contractor that AHS sent came out, he was only at the house for a few minutes and said that there was nothing he could do. My wife was here and just after having seen it for a couple minutes, he left and said, “I don’t know if American Home Shield is going to pay this claim or not.” Sure enough, we got denial of the claim based on two things. One, the fact that the contractor said the blade wasn’t turning when, in fact, it was turning. And secondly, he said that there was a foreign object lodged in the disposal, which there was none.
Had I been home, I would’ve explained that to the guy that these weren’t the issues. It’s easier for them to be in the house for two minutes and just collect the $75 deductible, the service fee that we pay. He doesn’t care if the claim is covered or not. I had a different contractor out here at the house for a different issue and I explained the two things that were quoted by the first contractor that caused the claim to be denied. He looked at the disposal and said, “No, the blade is turning,” and confirmed what I already knew. And he looked in the disposal and said, “There’s no foreign object in here.”
So, I called American Home Shield back and explained it to them, and they said they’d have to send somebody out for a second opinion, which was Bear Plumbing. So, Bear Plumbing came out and when he flipped the switch, there was no power to the disposal at all. Bear Plumbing said that the reset button under has been broken, and they surmised that the first contractor had broken it. The contractor said, “So, therefore, I cannot verify anything here because I can’t press this reset switch.”
This was a week ago, Monday, and American Home Shield still has not gotten back to me on the second opinion, as to whether or not the claim is going to be denied or accepted, based on Bear Plumbing’s review. I emailed Bear Plumbing on Saturday and they said, “Well, we turned in our report to American Home Shield half an hour after we left the house last Monday. They should have it.” So, I put a second call in to American Home Shield this morning inquiring about the status of Bear Plumbing’s reports, and they said that they still had not yet received it. I found myself in a situation where it’s likely that I could pay two $75 service fees and still have the claim denied because the first contractor misdiagnosed the claim and then broke the switch, which disallowed the second contractor to do his inspection on it, so it’s, overall, been a very bad experience.
I have two houses and I have American Home Shield warranties with both houses, and I’m considering not renewing with them because of the bad experience I’ve had on this. I would not recommend them to other people and I would recommend to American Home Shield that they’d be more selective in their contractors. And then, there’s the disconnect somewhere with American Home Shield and their contractors, since it has taken a week now to get this second opinion in, and I still don’t have it. American Home Shield has to fix that communication gap somehow.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We had a Samsung stove that has gone out for the third time. It had a couple of minor things and then it kept getting an error code that required you to unplug the unit from the wall or cut off the circuit breaker and cut it back on. When the repairman came out and looked at it and checked the error code, Samsung apparently no longer made the part that needed to be replaced on the stove. So, it was at that point that it kicked in to replace it. I emailed the claim with an attachment and the check arrived yesterday. I also called for appointment clarification and the interaction with the rep went smoothly. I also had a dryer that we’ve had a couple of repairs on it. My toilet doesn't flush well at least once per week so I scheduled a service call with AHS. When the plumber came the toilet flushed well so he "wasn't able to do anything due to it was working at that moment - and no problem was found". I called AHS who confirmed that there was nothing they could do - they said they had to be able to verify the problem. I asked to speak to a supervisor to contest the decision and was transferred to "John". I explained again the situation that it was unrealistic to plan for them to 'see' the problem happening and I requested they at least come out and snake the line.
John gave the ok for this. He told me he'd place the work order to state for the plumber to come back and even if he could not verify the stoppage AHS would cover snaking the line and this would be covered under the $75 service fee I already paid. When I called the plumber to set up the appointment he said "John" gave me incorrect information. I called AHS back and they confirmed that there is nothing they can/will do. I asked to speak to someone else to contest this decision and was on hold for nearly an hour and never got through to anyone. It seems very unfair for me to pay $75 for AHS to do nothing at all to resolve this issue. I'm ready to cancel my contract.

I've called AHS again. They set another appointment. The plumber said that the valve should be replaced. They did not fix it again.
After weeks I had to call them again and sked when they will replace the valve. This time they said that American Home Shield rejected the claim and if I want to fix it I had to pay $185 out of my pocket. I am already paying my monthly fee for my 2 houses. And paid $100 for the claim. Now I hear that I have to solve the problem by my own. And pay additional costs... All the stages of this leaking problem is very sad. We requested service twice for a washing machine and once for a water heater. We were never contacted for service even though we emailed the given service provider so that we would have a record. The third time we selected the option for us to pay the service provider but AHS took the payment anyway. We decided to not renew the contract however after a call from AHS, in which we were promised a refund of the prepayment and that we could obtain service from a reliable provider if needed, we continued our agreement. It is now almost two months later and still, following a phone call in which we were told a reimbursement request had been submitted on March 24, there has been no refund. I have a home warranty through American Home Shield (AHS). On March 31 I arranged a service visit for a clogged floor drain, a covered service under the contract, through AHS. They arranged for a contractor, to come to fix the clog. The company technician properly diagnosed that the drain was clogged and attempted to clear the clog through the floor drain. He could not clear it and left.
We later received a notification from AHS that the contractor said we needed clean outs installed to clear the clog and installation of such was not covered. We, in fact, already have two clean outs installed, one inside and one out, but the contractor did not take the time to find and use them. Since AHS said we were not covered and we needed working drains we got another company to clear them. We requested a refund of our service call fee, $75, and AHS refused (2 ½ hours of phone wait time) even though we believe the work performed was clearly negligent since the contractor did not take the time to find the clean outs, and mistakenly told AHS that we did not have the required clean outs.
Good morning Bob,
I am glad I had the pleasure of speaking with you to reach a resolution to the service request.

I normally don't take the time to write reviews, but this was THE WORST customer experience of any product or service I have EVER had. I had a recent saga with AHS for a leaking water heater, which you would want to replace immediately because it causes you not to have hot water in the house... I discovered the issue on a Saturday and immediately put in the request online. First off, they assigned a plumbing service that wasn't open on the weekends. Fine, I had to wait until Monday to get someone to look at it. The plumbing service called me on Monday saying they couldn't schedule the service until Wednesday. Luckily, they had a last-minute cancellation on Tuesday, so I rushed back from work to wait for the technician.
When the technician came, they immediately saw that the water heater needed to be replaced. After explaining the process, he left after 5 minutes. I was thinking, ok great, at least AHS will cover the replacement. I get a call from AHS later that day. The customer service agent started off by saying the replacement and repair is covered. I was thinking, awesome! Then he goes, but there are some exceptions for the service that won't be covered. He starts listing out specific line items (mumbo jumbo for anyone who's not AHS) and amounts for each. Of course this is where the plumbing service will charge extra to try to recoup some additional revenue (which AHS has pressured them to keep under $250 per service). And guess what... It amounts to a whopping $705.
My blood starts boiling, since when the sales rep sold me service, they paint this rosy picture that every item in the contract will be covered. What they don't tell you is that the service providers will find additional services to charge you which they charge at exorbitant amounts. I tell him I'll think about it. Later that day, I'm doing some more research on their website, and look at the page for water heater coverage (https://www.ahs.com/home-warranty/systems/water-heater/water-heater-coverage/). In a bit of misleading marketing (bordering on FALSE ADVERTISING), under BASIC WATER HEATER COVERAGE they say Permit and Code Upgrades are covered up to $250. Of course BASIC WATER HEATER COVERAGE isn't really basic, since my contract didn't have Permit and Code Updates covered...
AND by the way to go through this process, I was on the phone for about 2 hours, with 1.5 hours of those on hold... They finally offer a cashout option, which I know isn't going to be very much, but I decide to find out how much. They said the team will call me back. 2 days later, they finally do. The amount they're able to give is a measly $588. So I say, "I'm going to reject this offer and go with getting the service."
ANOTHER 2 days later, they haven't called me back yet, and by then I've given up getting the water heater fixed that week. But I want to call in to make sure the case is being processed. After being on hold FOR ANOTHER 40 minutes, the customer service agent tells me they never captured my rejection of the cashout option and to proceed with the service request. I was FURIOUS. Not only do they make you pay out of pocket for things that you had thought was covered. Even processing the case THROUGH AHS they try to delay as much as possible. Needless to say, if you're in the market for home insurance, I would stay away from AHS. I would also be careful of any home insurance company and what they promise you when you sign up for the service vs. when you actually need them.
Good afternoon Brett,
Your concerns are understood regarding the delay in service that you have experienced to have the water heater repaired and the CIL value. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues addressed.

We have been with AHS for over 3 years, but this may be my last. The contract fee has gone up each and every year during that time, but service has gotten worse. We had a leak in the toilet upstairs which cause damage to the ceiling downstairs. AHS refused to fix that because it is secondary damage. The technician even refused to put sealant around the toilet because it isn’t covered by AHS. We were surprised because AHS had previously told us the leak is covered if wet when the technician gets there. Anyway, that was a lost battle.
On Saturday, April 27th, we came home to find our water heater was leaking. We called AHS to have someone sent right away as it was an emergency. The first rep first concern was to collect the service of $75. She told us the company was going to contact us. We waited for about 30 minutes, then called back. This time, the rep was more helpful. She was able to have AHS agree to send a contractor the following day. After two calls, AHS dispatched a plumbing company on Sunday the 28th that reported we needed a replacement water heater and reported the significant damage all that water leaking had caused. On Sunday, we received a call from AHS informing us that we have a $597 bill to pay for them to replace the water heater.
On Monday, April 29Th, we called AHS to understand what the $597 represent. We had to try several times to even reach someone. The rep wasn’t helpful. Furthermore, when we requested to speak to a service manager, we were told nothing further would be done by a manager. I insisted and was put on hold for at least 30 minutes before someone claiming to be the manager came to the phone. They advised me AHS would not help with the damage caused by the leak as those are secondary damage not covered by our contract.
Now for the water heater, the plumbing company is charging me $597 for an “in-kind” replacement. This fee is supposed to be for uncovered modifications. AHS informed me that the plumber word is final. So, AHS is saying we have only two options and 10 to 14 business days to respond: 1. Pay their contractor the $597 and they install the water heater or 2. Take the cash out of $400 and we are on our own. I checked the price of our heater and it costs more than $600 (the model has been discontinued and the corresponding replacement is $644.95), so they are not even willing to cover the cost of the actual water heater.
Here are the links: https://www.bradfordwhite.com/documentation **. We offered for them to buy the water heater, send it to us and we will hire our own plumber which they flatly refused. We asked the manager which modifications were needed since it is an “in-kind” replacement but received no answer only that the contractor has the final say. We are just flabbergasted by the fact that they will not even pay out enough to buy a water heater basically cornering us to have it their way. AHS is supposed to have their customers interests at heart but in this case, we seriously have doubts.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

So I had to make another call and have them come out and take care of it. The contractor was a great guy, did a great job of explaining what he was gonna do and the cost so I was very pleased with him. We ran the air conditioner and it worked fine. My pool guy advised me that my pool filter was not catching the dirt and debris as it was supposed to, so I called American Home Shield and they said that my filter was covered. The contractor who came out advised me that the filter itself was functioning. However, the filter itself is the wrong size for the pool, so if it is the wrong size for the pool, clearly, it is not gonna work right.
I called American Home Shield back and they said that the contractor said it works. I said, "Yeah, he says it works. But he also says it's a wrong size for my pool. Therefore, it doesn't work." I was on the phone with the rep for an hour and I got nowhere. One of the main issues is the language barrier. I had a hard time understanding the person that I talked to and she was not understanding me at all. I finally convinced them to allow me to get a second opinion. So, somebody else is gonna come out, but she told me that if the person who comes out has the same finding, then they are gonna charge me the service fee of $100 again, and I am not happy with it right now.

My son referred AHS to me. I try to do my claims online but for the past couple of times it wouldn't allow me to, so I would have to call. And there was also a long wait, like for 20 minutes, for someone to answer. But the claim reps of AHS were helpful. They said someone will reach out to me within 24 hours. My refrigerator was forming ice behind the fan, and the temperature wasn't possibly cooling the food like it did because the fan wasn't working due to the ice.
The contractor tried to repair the refrigerator. It was working fine after he left. And then the following day, I noticed the ice. The contractor replaced another part of the freezer, and freezer is making ice, so I have to call them back. The fridge is also making that can noise again, so I don't know what's going on. The copay is also a little high, but they couldn't fix my washer. But they gave me a replacement cost in order to purchase a new one, which is great.

I figured that something is always gonna go wrong, so I might as well get my things covered. I’m satisfied with American Home Shield, but I had a previous experience going through them on an issue and nobody got back with me. I didn't like that because I called, then one person said he was gonna email me some information and get back with me, and they didn’t. I called again and told the person after a week that nobody got back with me, and still nobody did. It was my air conditioning and heating unit, so I went out and purchased another one.
The most recent claim was I had a leak in my bathroom and it was leaking somewhere in my kitchen as well. I told American Home Shield that I needed a plumber to come out, and they told me that within 24 hours, someone would be contacting me and they did. The first one that came out checked everything because my faucet was also dripping. He corrected that problem, but he checked the leak that was happening in the bathroom. He would need to get somebody else to come out because he needed to change the whole faucet and clean the other end, so he said he couldn’t do it. He needed to contact AHS to be able to get somebody else to come out. He’s working on it now though.

I kept looking at the advertisement for AHS on TV. And looking at how appliances go out so fast, I just wanted to make sure we were covered because who has $1,100 just sitting around just waiting for an appliance to break down. It's almost like having a car and your extended warranty, it covers stuff wherein if you don't have the money, you have the warranty and it pays for it.
I've been with AHS for three months now and my experience with them has been absolutely wonderful. The hot water heater was dripping so I submitted a claim. I called Monday, and they were gonna send somebody out on Wednesday, and then they called me back and let me know that they had an appointment open within 15 minutes after I get off the phone with them. So I went ahead and took that appointment.
The technicians were both very professional young guys. They shook our hand and let us know what the problem was, and they were getting on the solution right then and there. They saw the dripping and they knew that it was already gone. So they went ahead and called AHS and let them know what the problem was, and they got everything going. They're gonna have to replace it. They just got to do some modifications and it's gonna cost me out of my pocket. But it's okay. I'm very satisfied with AHS. AHS had someone come out and they said they cleaned the coil, and then they also put whatever it was that I was lacking the two pounds. The ac seems to be okay, but I’m still noticing that it seems to be doing the same thing where it’s almost freezing up. Other than that, I’ve never had any problems with any of their technicians. They come in and do what they’re supposed to do and get out. AHS takes care of what they’re supposed to take care of, and the cost is pretty low. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield originally for pre-summer AC maintenance, and I did it through their website. And that process was easy. Everything was led up to where it brought attention to what I wanted to select, and then it had the easy access for the request repairs or request services. It had it already highlighted in red to where it stood out. From the site, it didn’t really give a time of when the contractor would come out. It just notified us of a time that the contractor will contact us. And then, once the contractor contacted us within that time, it was when we expected them to come out.
My experience with the contractor was good. When they called, they had availability that same day. So, the time that they came out was more at the convenience of me. They had a quick turnaround service. Also, the service was really good. They ended up not being able to do the tune-up bill, but the contractor informed me of an actual issue with the AC unit that we had, and then also let me know that potentially, there would be an extra charge through Home Shield since the actual issue was found. So, he made me aware of what to expect. I was pleased with it.
He made sure I understood anything that they needed to advice. He didn’t do the preventative maintenance because there was an underlying present issue there. He said he was gonna put in the order for the part for it. Right now, we're waiting on a response from them once they get that part in to schedule the actual repair for the unit. All in all, I recommend American Home Shield to everybody. Now, seeing how much repairs could cost, having the warranty is worth it. We've had a good experience so far. I have no complaints and there had been a quick turnaround for everything.

Updated on 05/04/2019: Here are pictures of my AC unit that the contracted American Home Sheild World Class AC Inc. said is repairable even though two attempts were made and I still have been without AC here in Florida 9 days and counting. I have spoken to various supervisors and have wasted a lot of my time trying to get this resolved. The bottom of my unit, as you can see is rusted out and crumbling. Yet they are going to try (key phrase here) to repair it. Long hold times when calling only to be told that the escalation dept. is busy and can't take my call and I cannot hold for them and that I need to call back. Their initial diagnosis, which took World Class AC Inc. 2 days to even send the info to AHS was up to 3 months for them to repair it.
I would recommend thinking twice before signing up with AHS. We are stuck with their slow boat to China services because their home warranty came with the house that we purchased. Actions speak louder than words, and action is not in their vocabulary or in their customer service agents' scripts that they read from when you call them. Buyer beware with this company, which makes me wonder how they get any good reviews.
Original Review: I set up a service appointment cause my AC unit was not working. After leaving several voicemail with their contracted vendor, a technician was sent to my house. He told me that the parts needed to fix my AC could take up to 3 months to arrive. Are you kidding me? I live in FL. What kind of a racket is this. No reputable AC company would take that long to get a part. The tech also lied and said that they were not the company that serviced my unit back in Oct. After calling AHS and waiting 30 mins for a customer service agent, I told him to stop reading his "script" and get me a supervisor.
I was transferred to their "resolution dept". She assured me that she would call me today because the company that serviced my unit had not yet submitted their diagnostic report. Very frustrating waste of my time with phone reps that are difficult to understand due to a language barrier. The "resolution dept" agent was very nice as it was not a happy call, but I will see if they wind up fixing my AC in a timely manner. My next step is the Better Business Bureau.

I was having water pressure pump issues and the contractors were fine. They were professional and they answered questions. The work got done by the second contractor that American Home Shield sent out. Apparently, the first one doesn’t work on the electrical systems for the pump, and the second one is specifically for that type of work. They did a fine job too. The pump is now working the way it's supposed to.
The online process for submitting claims is also fairly simple. But trying to get ahold of someone is damn near impossible. It's not a very good option. On top of that, American Home Shield should learn how to read their own contract. They like to argue over semantics with regards to wording in their stuff so that they don’t have to cover anything. So instead of helping the consumers, they take our money and then try to fight us with regards to not paying for or covering what they should be covering. They live off the words "nothing else for the well pump". But they cover major electrical systems and both of these pieces I had were major electrical systems in my opinion.
American Home Shield needs to fix their contracts so it specifically says what they don’t cover and not live behind small ambiguous words. I would also make sure that a person considering an American Home Shield policy would read their contract and then get specifics from American Home Shield. They say they cover the well pump but they don't cover parts. So what parts aren't covered? Specifically ask about that and then choose wisely when you're choosing them.

What has happened very consistently is I normally get a text right away and an email saying that I'll be contacted soon. I typically get that call around 8 o’clock in the evening, within about 24 to 36 hours.
I've had a variety of different people come to my house and I've had great interactions with them. I've had a microwave repair, a toilet fixed, the HVAC and the ceiling fans. Each one of them has been really nice and very professional. I also had a heating thing up in my attic where my entire unit went out because of a fuse. They came out and fixed it, and then within 10 days, it happened again. The tech came back out and fixed it again very quickly. Everything else has been working great. As a first-time homeowner, if anything major goes wrong in my house appliance-wise, not having to stress about spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on something and knowing that it's just a flat-rate to have somebody come out and fix the problem is worth every penny of the peace of mind for it. Until I called the first time, I didn’t know I had to pay anything. The rep said that the claim would cost me a $75 co-pay. The co-pay thing was probably hidden in the fine print somewhere. I don't know if it's necessary. I was also surprised because it was $75 the first time, and then it was $80 and some odd cents when the dryer broke down. I was given different rates between the two service calls. They also say that if they can't fix something, they will replace it. I don't know how that end of their program works though and I like all my facts in front of me. They should put the details in a pamphlet.
The first time I called American Home Shield, I called for a water leak. When I called them, I didn’t know what my policy number was and I got to talk to a person at that point. The plumbing company came out a day later. It took the tech 20 minutes to fix the problem. I also called AHS for my dyer. I'm an older person and when I call, I would like to talk to a person. But when I put my policy number in, it just went through a computer system that said I would be contacted by a company that they contract with. I got a call within the next day.
The tech came out the next day because I was off. The dryer's motor would run but the drum wouldn’t spin. He just added a new belt on the washer and replaced the switch. He did a really good job. With both claims, I was contacted by the company. They made the appointment and then showed up. The work was done on time and they did a good job. I would recommend AHS. It has been a good service so far and I haven't had anything that they couldn’t fix.

Recently, we had a hot water heater leak and I filed a claim online for it to American Home Shield. It was very easy and the tech was at our place within 15 minutes of getting the order. He was very professional and very quick. In less than half an hour, he was done and had the leak repaired. However, AHS had a promotion for the tune-up which I wanted to take advantage of, and it was only $75. So, I did that, and I called. However, we had an issue that had to be repaired, which I was told they couldn’t do it while the techs doing the tune-up were here.
I was told that I would have to call American Home Shield back and have a new work order issued. I would have to pay another $75 fee for the guy to come back out to make the repair, which is not good. I don’t need to pay somebody $75 to tell me my unit’s good. I’ll just wait till it breaks down. There is no incentive for doing the prevention. So, I learned from that and from now on, I just won’t do anything.

I called AHS for some light fixtures that weren't working and I had to schedule it out a few days because I wasn't gonna be home. They were able to schedule around my schedule and the contractor did a good job. The only thing I recommend is that when the contractors come in, to put some sort of things on their boots because they left some footprints on my wood floors. But other than that, they knew what they needed, so they brought it with them. They had everything they needed.
Gregg,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I submitted a plumbing claim over the phone with American Home Shield but it turned out not to be a plumbing issue. The technician said the issue has to be the dishwasher because it cycles except the last cycle. American Home Shield's customer service was based on what they were taught, and I realized part of it is my fault because when I was going through the same exact customer service, I should’ve asked to go over their head because I’ve been going through the same thing since June. I knew I had this ticket problem and I’ve asked them to have it taken care of. And they took up all my Saturdays. Since June, a lot of Saturdays is the availability of the technicians to come.
So, when it was obvious that they couldn’t figure out how to fix it, they still kept saying the technician had to write it down, and no one wanted to admit that they were wrong. So, I should’ve just went over the person that’s on the phone ask for the supervisor, so I could just get into it taken care of more quickly. So, I’m still waiting. I still haven’t gotten the final reports from anybody.
After a customer had called so many times, I suggest that American Home Shield's reps take it up with their supervisor and not all policy should be written in stone without understanding some issues. If somebody is still complaining about the same issue, then they need to think outside the box. And if they noticed the case isn’t closed out within a certain amount of time, they should contact the customer or they should be supplying the documentation to make sure that all of that had been taken care of.

One weekend, I noticed that the air was running constantly and it was humid in the house. Then we noticed that the unit outside was not running, so we turned it off. I went online and put in the service request with American Home Shield. But contractors only call you on the weekday or business day. Fortunately, it wasn’t that hot outside. We opened the window and used the fan. Then Advanced Heating called me on Monday and set up an appointment for Tuesday afternoon. The tech came earlier than the time they told me, but that was fine since my mother was here. Otherwise, that wouldn’t have been fine because I wasn’t gonna be here until they said they were gonna be here. But he had the issue fixed really quickly and stayed around a bit to make sure it was running properly, and then he left.
Our house was built in ’84 and I’m sure the air conditioner unit is that old. When it’s really hot, it doesn’t run as well as it should run. I have to put it on 65 to keep it 70 degrees in here. To me, that means it doesn’t work and it should be fixed or replaced, or whatever needs to be done. But I was told that it’s old and so, that’s all it’s gonna do. Also, AHS tells me they only replace the unit whenever the technician says it needs to be replaced, and the technician says AHS won’t let them replace it.
I’ve also had a lot of plumbing issues, like a leaky faucet kind of thing and my master bathtub. I had to call AHS four times to have the faucet fixed, and I had to pay $75 every time the contractor came out. Finally, AHS decided to replace the faucet, but the technician would not take the tile off the wall to replace the faucet. The contractor told me I had to take the whole cabinet and sink out of our other bathroom to get to that tub in the master bathroom, which was ridiculous. It turned out, and they said, that the reason they would make us do that is because AHS won’t pay them to retile my bathroom after they take some out. After that, I was ready to cancel my AHS warranty. They paid me to buy a new faucet, but the new faucet is still sitting in there and my tub is still leaking. And this was in the fall.
If I had someone else come and tear out the tile, the plumbers would come and replace that faucet. But that’s gonna cost me thousands of dollars, and that's not what AHS advertised. On the radio, they’re saying, “We replace your AC unit and all of these things or whatever,” which they did replace a dishwasher for us once. I have two houses that I have the AHS warranty on, and I’m thinking of just cancelling them both because with the money I spend on it in a year’s time, I could just pay for the repairs that we have since AHS won’t fix our problem as much as I want them to.

I didn't have direct contact because they went directly to the back to fix everything. So far, the pump is now working, which is a good thing. It has always been very easy with American Home Shield. I'm in a very rural area now, in a small town, so there are not any contractors in my area. They have to be called in from far away and I don't know if there is any way AHS can get contractors that are closest to me to make it easier for me and the contractor themselves because some of them have to drive for an hour. Recently, I had a plumbing issue and I submitted a claim for that, but it was quite difficult. The valve for my shower was bad. The contractor, Access Plumbing, tried to replace the handle but that didn't work, then they replaced the valve. They did a great job. I recommend AHS all the time.

I had a plumbing issue where Kimco came out. I took a shower one day and blistering hot water coming out. It was no big deal. My wife and I like it really hot. But it was odd. It normally is not that hot. Then the next day, there was no hot water. So I went to go check the water to see if maybe it was leaking. There was water in the drip pan and a little bit of rust on the bottom of the water heater. Then I opened up the little thing where you adjust the temperature at. I happened to push the reset button and it clicked back on. I assumed that it was something that I better have checked out. It may be due to corrosion in the water heater because where we live at in Burke, they use well water. It’s like water from Wichita, which is a bigger city, and it just corrodes a lot of the stuff around there.
Filing the claim with American Home Shield was really simple. I was rather surprised. I just went online and filled out what it asked for. I did that on Saturday and the technician came out Monday morning. In fact, it was the owner of Kimco that came out and did the service. Apparently, the guys who came out the day before weren’t working out for him so he came out himself, and he did an excellent job. It was easy pulling a replacement.

We have a rental at Reagan Drive and on February 22nd, we put in a claim for an appliance there. American Home Shield assigned it to Total Air Care and Total Air Care sent out people who were not capable of fixing the unit. It was a mess. It got to the point where one of the technicians was looking at YouTube to try to fix the unit and he cut a bunch of wires. It was awful. We were in Israel and had to call just about every day.
Total Air Care sent a part but said it wasn’t the right part. Finally, I talked with somebody at Total Air Care who said they would send out a senior technician. They sent out someone who did know what he was doing. He was wonderful and had the unit fixed within an hour. He fixed it last week, May the 2nd. It was cooling when he left. He said that we had 30 days and to call if we noticed anything not going on. The tenant called us and said that they had the unit set at 70 and it would not get below 75. We placed another call to try to get Total Air Care to come back out and see what was going on. It has been a nightmare and we're now in the middle of May.
American Home Shield was not the problem though. It was the person that they contracted with. Total Air Care was incompetent and it's very hard for them to get decent people to come out. They have a hard time keeping them. I understand that’s how it is with the economy and a lot of people have that same problem in their industry. But you can't have just one person who knows what they're doing that covers two states. That’s impossible. The only other frustrating part was we had to call the American Home Shield call center just about every day trying to follow up. It would help if we could speak to someone who speaks English. We had a hard time communicating with several people.
We spoke with American Home Shield and finally got to a supervisor. They expedited everything. They told us to go out and get a portable unit to put in the window ‘til the unit could be fixed. They did everything they could do. Once we got the supervisor, he was great. But it had not been an easy experience. We've had American Home Shield for probably about 20 years with various rental properties, so we definitely believe in them. They're a good company but this last experience was not good. My husband is a very patient man, but he lost his patience. He was like, “This has been going on for over two months.” This has been our only horrible experience with AHS.

My 19-year old dryer has been giving me problems. Sometimes, it goes on when I go to sleep at night and then when I wake up in the morning, it is still going. It is dangerous. Now, over a weekend, it did not work at all. I kept playing with it until it finally worked but I still do not feel safe using it. I made a claim to American Home Shield and they are still going back and forth about replacing something. The first contractor sent did absolutely nothing. All he did was unscrew something, looked in there, and screwed it back and said that the unit is working. I told him that for him to really see what I was telling them, they need to spend the night here. Over that weekend, it did it again. I went to sleep and I woke up and my dryer was on all night.
I called American Home Shield back and I asked them to not send the previous technician. But, the following Friday, the same technician came again. I ran him away and told him that I asked AHS to send a different technician. The company told AHS that they are not gonna come out. AHS did not send anybody. Then, they got Sears involved. Sears came out last week and they said that they’re gonna replace the dryer because inside, the dryer is peeling. Although, I do not think that was the whole issue. Something in the wires was not right for the unit to not work when it doesn’t wanna work and for it to keep going when it wants to go. I’m really nervous about using this and I don’t know what to do. It was frustrating to me that American Home Shield won’t replace it already. I have been dealing with this for four weeks.
I’m really concerned about this because they are thinking about putting a new drum in there which I don’t think is the problem. It’s just that the drum is peeling. Someone is supposed to come tomorrow to put a drum in it. They have to look and see and I explained to them that it did not work. They are not here when things are happening and they will just keep deeming it as working. But this morning, I spoke to a representative from American Home Shield and I told him that I’m willing to go half and half with the unit. There is a dryer connected to my washing machine. American Home Shield can replace the dryer part and I will replace the washing machine because I’m not gonna have a 19-year old washing machine have them unscrew the dryer off and put a new dryer on top of an old washing machine. It does not make sense.
I just feel like somebody needs to replace the unit. They can put a brand new drum if they like, but I’m going to be afraid to use it. We’ll have to fix this problem by replacing the problem. Also, it did not make any sense to keep having the technicians come out and it didn’t work. It’s now up to the point where it is not working when it doesn’t wanna work and that is not good.
Denise,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

I bought this house a year ago and this whole AHS thing is something that people do now. When you sell a house, you give it to people. I was so happy with how AHS treated me last winter that I signed up again. I’ve been buying and selling houses for years and AHS is worth it. When the AC’s fan wouldn't turn off, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. It was on a Saturday. It took two or three days for the contractor to come but they might have gotten here sooner if I said that I had a problem. I knew I was having trouble with the air conditioner but I requested for seasonal maintenance and it ended up being two different calls. The air conditioner has been fixed. It’s a little bit loud but it’s quieting down. The contractors did a good job.
The gals who call to make the appointments are nice. Most companies say that they would be there between 8:00 and 12:00, and they show up at 11:59. But the people that AHS sends out are always within the 30 minutes at the earliest time they give you. Also, everybody who comes out are very professional. He explained to me what it was, and it can be fixed but it would not be worth all the work. The previous owners took some wiring out of the wall where the sockets were plugged into. They cut them. And so, for us to find out where that is, we’d have to kinda tear apart the wall. I don't believe that would be covered and it would not be worth it. On my sheet it says what’s covered and it says “Foundation and cracks.” But when I tried to go online to submit that, I couldn't find a spot for it. I couldn't click it. And then, when I called the representative she also could not find it. I had to pull up my contract and read it verbatim. That was more difficult than it needed to be because that is in my contract. And that was a few days past the 60 days. So, we waited again for another repairman to come out. He came out and he said it was another part. He ordered it, it took about two weeks, and he came back out last week. When he was here, he turned it on and the water came, the whole nine yards. I've had other claims and have not been pleased, but the rep that I spoke to for this claim was outstanding.
All In One was assigned to me and I was told that I'd be contacted within 24 to 48 hours. I got a call within three hours and we talked about what my situation was. The tech told me that washing machines of my brand and type, usually, a problem was with a valve. He went to the parts store then called me back and said they had the part. American Home Shield deducts directly from my account. Then if they tell me I owe, I would send them their money. We called American Home Shield for our water heater. The timer that was connected to it had a shortage, so it was broken. It was fine with the claims representative. We also wanted them to check for our shower valves. And the rep said that he wrote it down on there, but the next morning, when I got the call from the technician who was coming, he said he didn’t see it on his work order.
I had to call American Home Shield again and have them put it on there. And they assigned two different plumbing companies for the two different issues, and so I had to call back and have them condense it into one plumbing company. The next morning, I got a call from the technician, and he said that he scheduled a time for a couple days later. The technicians were very knowledgeable. The first technician knew that it was an electrical issue, so he put in a call for us to have them send out the electrical technician. He removed the timer box and it's been good. It was a thorough experience.

I needed an air conditioner tune-up recently. I tried to submit a claim online and for some reason, it wouldn't take it. So I went and called American Home Shield directly. The tech who came was great. He did the tune-up on the outside, which didn't require him to go inside. He checked the air conditioner out and said it was operating fine. He also checked the pressures on it. I've been happy so far.

Initially, I called Total Air Care to clean my air conditioner for the maintenance because AHS used them and I was pleased with the service that I got. The air conditioner needed a part and the man fixed it. He was very nice and told me exactly what was wrong with it. He showed me that another company put a used part on it but charged for a new one. That was why the unit went out. He said he hated to charge me again but it was needed. He showed me the box where the new part came out of and I was very impressed.
When it was time to have my air conditioner cleaned again and see if anything needed fixing, I called them again. I watched the guy that was here because one time, I got stuck when they didn't clean the drip line. They got out here and it clogged up. I had water running in my house at the time and that cost me $300 to repair. The guy from Total Air said that they only have a 30-day guarantee. I told him that they cleaned it at the end of the summer but he said that I should have checked it. But I told him that turning on the air conditioner on November didn't make a lot of sense. Still, he said there was nothing they could do.
AHS needs to get rid of Total Air Care immediately. They don't even have an office or people here in Augusta, just trucks and bodies. Also, they'd tell you they'd be coming, then they'd say they came but they didn't. And people were sitting here waiting for them looking out the window but they never came. And this happened three times. The gate was locked but they could knock on the door. So Total Air Care is just the pits and I had a horrible time with them.
Other than that, I submitted another claim with AHS because my toilet was leaking. A contractor put in a faucet and the home water valve blew because he didn't put the correct valves back on. I was told that AHS changed their policy where you pay $100 upfront now and I don't like that because if somebody comes out and does a crappy job, then I'm out $100. I was also told on the phone that AHS would be using Hardy Plumbing here in Augusta for my claim. When I called the tech, Eric, he said he needed to get AHS to give him a call and tell him it was emergency and he would come out. AHS did and he came out at 10 o'clock at night on a Saturday. He put the right valves on, then he turned the water back on for me just as nice as it could be.
He not only found that problem, but he found another problem and he fixed that as well. I watched him and he showed me the other piece in there that was broken. He said that was why my toilet kept on running and he put a new one in. So, I was very pleased and I was glad that I didn't have to call him back. Eric was very professional and he had the best attitude. The toilet has been performing excellently since the repair, too.
