There was a leak in our toilet. I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS and within the next 24 to 48 hours, they sent out a tech from Gluff Plumbing. He fixed it and my experience was great. He was really quick and everything has been working since the repair.

There was an issue with my pool heater. I do everything online so I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and the process was fine. When the contractor called to schedule, I told them that I have work and they told me that I don’t even have to be here. So, I wasn’t here when the tech fixed the heater and it has been working ever since. I’m satisfied with AHS.

My house is about five years old and there was no P-trap put in when the house was built for the water from the air conditioner to pump the water out of the house. The condensation caused leaking in the house. So, we had to have somebody come out and repair that. My husband called American Home Shield. The contractor that came was professional and timely. They showed up when they said they'd be here. He knew what he was doing. But they didn't cover the installation of the P-trap. They, nonetheless, diagnosed what was wrong with it. And then we had to hire them, separate, to come back and put in the P-trap into the closet which is in the middle of the house. When it leaked, it leaked down 'cause it sits upon a pedestal in the closet, and it leaked underneath into the cement floor. When I was changing the filter and found it leaking. I didn't know with the filter, but it was completely soaked -- no wonder my allergies were killing me.

The repair done seems to be going the job. I've had American Home Shield forever. And when we bought this house, the previous owner had given us another year free in our homeowners, which we were gonna transfer from our other house anyway. But, we got a free thing, and then when that free subscription went out, we just renewed it and put it back into our name. We've never really had a problem except for when we called a couple of times. The person we were talking couldn't be understood very well 'cause they were broken English. And they couldn't understand us. We had a little bit of a language barrier there. But other than that, I've not had any complaints about American Home Shield.

The panel board of the air conditioner was not working properly. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and the process was easy. I got a contractor out for service in a couple of days. He was professional and he provided good work. From where the air conditioner was previously located, it kept causing it to short out, so he changed the location and explained that and it has been okay. I haven’t had any issues since he left.

    Reviewed April 28, 2019

I have been with American Home Shield coming up on 4 years now. I have paid my monthly fees on time and have paid in excess of $2,000 if you include the premiums alone. My first use of their service was on pipe leaks in the house. I paid my $100 deductible and Total Plumbing sent a contractor in a few days to assist me. Within 5 minutes and without even looking at the problem, he advised me the basket strainers are not covered under my contract (I have read the contract and knew he was lying) but if I paid him directly he would fix them. I called him out and contacted AHS who confirmed they did cover the repairs and he advised he needed to come back to fix as he didn't have the parts to fix them. He later returned to fix the leaks after a few more days. Needless to say I will not be using that contractor again hoping the next time I needed my home warranty they would send someone honest.

HEATING AND AIR BEWARE!!! The first time I contacted AHS about my heat and air system issues I paid my 100$ deductible and the contractor came out within a few days. He advised my unit (16 years old at the time) was low on Freon. He filled it back up and I was charged an additional $400 as AHS didn't cover the Freon (another loop hole in the contract). Almost 1 year later on 04/10/2019, my AC unit was back on the fritz and was not working. I filed the claim on 4/11/19 and was told BJ's heating and cooling would be handling the claim. I called them and they wouldn't give me the time of day over the phone and advised they would get to me when they could. I asked AHS for a new contractor and they assigned ALL HOURS MECHANICAL out of Petersburg VA. The earliest this company could come out was on 4/15/2019.

Ethan, the owner of the company, came to my house on the 15th and told me my system was 17 years old and needed to be replaced. He advised it should cost anywhere between 1500-2000 OUT OF POCKET on top of my warranty for "non covered modifications". I found this odd as this was the entire reason I bought the warranty for when my heating and air unit went out. Ethan advised he would get back with me that evening or early on the 16th with the full quote. HE DID NEITHER and it took multiple calls to AHS just to get him to give them the quote so I would have an idea of what I would be paying.

I called ALL HOURS MECHANICAL every day that week to get an update as I didn't know how much it was going to be or when if ever I would have my unit replaced. I received a phone call back from AHS on 04/19/2019 advising they would be replacing my unit but I would have to pay the contractor an additional $1,690.00 in non covered modifications. The modifications they were referring to were: 2 TON SAFETY SWITCH 375 AIR HANDLER UNIT, ELECTRICAL MODIFICATION 250, DUCTWORK 800, ELECTRICAL 150 OUTSIDE MOD, DRAIN PAN 115.

Mind you my house requires a 2.5 ton unit and this was not even for the correct size unit. I called Ethan as I felt these numbers were very high after speaking to another contractor. He advised me If I didn't like them to go with someone else. I then asked him if he could get the correct size unit 2.5 ton quote to which he told me that would just be a headache to go through AHS on. I asked him to please just get me the quote ASAP so we could get on with the work as my family with young children has been dealing with 80+degree days with no AC for over a week now. He told me he would let me know that afternoon on 04/18/2019.

By 4/20/2019 I still hadn't received a call and I contacted AHS asking if they had the updated quote. They advised Ethan has not contacted them or notified them of the requested larger unit size. I told them at that point I was tired of the runaround and wanted to hire my own contractor. They advised I could get "cash in lieu" but would need to get it approved for what they were going to pay ALL HOURS MECHANICAL.

Days later it was approved in the amount of $1,855.00 but they would not pay me until AFTER I paid my own contractor up front. On 4/27/2019 I had my unit replaced by a reputable contractor Trevor **. I was then told the 800 dollar duct work modification was false as my ductwork was in perfect condition, The 375 dollar safety switch mod was less than 30$ and clearly I needed to reevaluate my relationship with AHS and the shadey contractors they do business with. I will update this review if AHS follows through with reimbursing me with the 1,855.00 which Ironically is what I have already paid them in premiums in my contract. LOOK BEFORE YOU BUY!

Purchased a home that had a warranty with American Home Shield and picked up the coverage. Immediately discovered a catastrophic issue with the pool heater. Told them the pool service company I use said it needed to be replaced. They then charged me $75 to have their company look at it. Their technician said it needed to be replaced. They still denied the replacement. Then a couple weeks later, the natural gas leak from the broken heater almost blew up the neighborhood. I called and got a foreign operator/customer service rep who I could understand, so I requested a supervisor. After 45 minutes on hold, same woman came back on and said she was the supervisor. Told me she wasn't who I was speaking to before, and then 2 minutes later said, "Like I told you earlier..." BUSTED, you ARE the same person I was talking with.

I used to say that I would recommend American Home Shield highly. However, we're still in a standstill. I've had two claims, the first one being for a new dryer and it has been going on for almost a year now. I contacted the sales department several times but then I have to wait 25 to 30 minutes to get somebody to talk to me. I just can't do that during a work time. But then, I did it in my vacation time and I was able to contact after I waited for half an hour. Somebody came on and at least she gave me a figure of the amount they were gonna give me. It was $788 and so I then said that I have a Bosch dryer. I checked to find out what such things cost 'cause I bought mine brand new and the one I had couldn't be fixed. The rep then said that AHS does not actually provide the same brand as the one I have.

However, there is a reason that I bought the Bosch dryer and it's where I have to put it that made the difference. So, the rep said she's sorry and that was the amount. She gave it to me and told me to check it out. So, we went to best buy and of course, the dryer had to be ordered. I told the rep at BestBuy what AHS had given us and asked if this is exactly like the dryer that I have so I can put it in the sport I need it in. The rep showed it to me and told me that the cost of the dryer he was showing is $600 something but then it has to be vented. I said, "I can't".

BestBuy has a GE that's exactly in the same spot I have but then it's an updated model. The rep told me that was the model that would work in GE. Furthermore, it was exactly the same price as the Bosch so I said okay an that I will go back to them. However, I have not been able to contact anybody because I cannot wait that long for somebody to get on the phone. Additionally, AHS is not open on weekends. I have to wait for a vacation time when they're open, and I can wait until I can talk to somebody.

When I realized that I didn't have any hot water, I signed onto American Home Shield and put in that I needed someone to look at my water heater. AHS sent out a person that does AC and hot water heaters. However, the tech from there said he didn't work on my kind of water heater. He said that I needed a plumber. So, he transferred the ticket and Dave & Sons Plumbing came out that same day.

Previously, my maintenance person was there, and I told him I was having issues with my water heater. He went onto the patio and to the breaker box and told me the breaker tripped. I told him that I was still gonna get the plumber to look at the water heater since the plumber was already scheduled to come out. The maintenance person asked me to have the plumber check my elements to make sure that they are not going bad. When the plumber came out, he asked if the problem was my elements and whether or not they would be intermittent instead of just going straight cold.

He put the ticket in and told me that it would be open for 60 days after that. That Thursday, I didn’t have any hot water again. My friend, who is an electrician, came over and he met the plumber on Friday. Between the two of them, they got my hot water working. Since then, the heater has been excellent and I've had no problems with it. Overall, I had a pleasant experience with AHS. The plumber they sent answered all of my questions. I asked him how big my tank was and how much it would cost if I had to replace it. I also asked him how long tanks usually last. The entire time, he was a nice person and didn't seem annoyed.

We bought a brand new house and the air condition wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and they said they would set me up. They went into a pool of companies that could support their contracts. And initially, we were told the contractor couldn't see us till Monday. That was six days away and I said I could not, I have a four-year-old boy who was not gonna do well in the heat, and my wife has asthma. The customer service lady named Lynn was amazing. She had me on hold for 45 minutes, and she reached out to everyone she could get ahold of.

They finally got a company that would come the next day and get out there. Initially, I was kind of upset with them, but then Lynn, the customer service lady went over far beyond she needed to. And we got the service request. That next morning, I called them and said we could be at the house at this time and they were there at that time. Initially, they were unsure if they have all the parts. So, they had to call the warehouse. They asked if they could go drive to the warehouse, pick the parts up and come back. They picked the parts up. They came back and fixed the problem.

They told me everything I asked. They explained every detail to me, even if they had to replace the piece and what Home Shield would cover and what they wouldn't, the problems with the older systems versus the new when it comes to fixing parts and all that. We talked about the R22 gas versus the A10 gas that is now used. So, it was very thorough. I have nothing but positive to say because the HVAC people. Everybody, from Home Shield to Romano's HVAC, were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I would strongly recommend them to anybody. That was a great experience compared to how it started when we first bought the house. We've been with American Home Shield for a week now, but we were second day into owning a home and normally, you have to wait about 30 days as the gestation period. But AHS waived it and that's not very common when people are talking about contracts.

Making claims online at American Home Shield is convenient. Recently the AC wasn’t working, but it ended up being a thermostat programming issue. The contractor was pretty good due to their level of professionalism, courtesy, kindness and knowledge. However, they sent one guy out to look at the system prior, and that guy didn’t know what was going on. He literally was on the phone talking to somebody about what his readings were doing. He was clueless. I was trying to get a tune-up on the system and I thought something just needed to be cleaned up, and he couldn’t do that. So, he left and I had to do a work order, and that’s when the last guy came. He figured it out quickly and then he went to the thermostat, and within five minutes, he fixed it.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and I spoke to a person. It was an easy process and they were able to help me. The contractor that came out explained what he thought was going on and he also explained that he may not be able to fix it because of the parts. Either they didn't have the part or the part would’ve been much more than a new appliance. He said AHS would give back refunds and tell us how to proceed. AHS would let us know if they were gonna order a part or if we had to get a new range.

They decided that they would give me a new range, but the problem with that was although they had many selections, they didn’t have the size and everything that I needed to fit the spot I had. I needed a 20-inch, but they mostly had 30s and up, so I was able to at least go to Home Depot and order a 20-inch. I have the new stove in place now and AHS is supposed to be reimbursing me for that and they said it would take around 14 days. So far, I've been very pleased with AHS.

A guy came and did the tune-up and then, he identified that the drain outside the house was clogged. So I had to put in another claim for that. No one called me back on that but they charged me $125 and that was the AC. So, I'm still waiting on a call for that. Also, they say they cover stuff, then they don’t cover it. Another thing was one time, with the garage door opener, the guy who came was terrible. He did the garage door and then my garage door is still messed up. My remote was messed up so bad and it doesn't work anymore. I called back and put a complaint. And there’s nothing happening with that.

These people were so great for us and they went way out of their way for us. This time, they called and asked if they could come and see me between 11:00 and 3:00. Then they sent out the same tech that did the service for us before. He showed up when he said he was gonna be here and he was above and beyond. He came in, did his thing, and didn’t make a mess. They were prompt in diagnosing the issue and when it was determined that it needed to be replaced, they were prompt in scheduling a date and time and stuck to it. I couldn't be happier. I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 11 years and I am not going to say there haven't been any bumps in the road. I have had AHS for over 5 years and I've have had to call them out for my air conditioner every year. Instead of replacing it in the first place they kept putting a bandaide on it and as a result I would have to come out of pocket with hundreds of dollars each time for "freon" or something else. They finally replaced it last year 6/18 which I had to spend $800 (not covered expenses). There are ALWAYS NOT COVERED EXPENSES!!!! Now it's 4/19 and once again the air is not working.

Now I understand that it is not necessarily AHS but the company who may have messed up this time but it is AHS' contractor and therefore AHS's responsibility to get the situation fixed. However, this is not happening. I've have called 4 times and can never get a supervisor or resolution. Also, the repair company that replaced the air conditioner phone doesn't work when I or AHS attempts to reach them. UNACCEPTABLE. I work hard for my money and have a choice where I spend it so I expect my money's worth and AHS is not willing to respect that so LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME WARRANTY COMPANY NOW!!!

Therefore, I contacted AHS and waited for contractor the time AHS told me to wait, beyond the period, while AHS (operator Mike) contacted contractor. When the contractor showed up later but I already had left the house, contractor informed could not wait for me to go back home and left. But instead of rescheduling the visit, I was charged the $75 and have the request status as "complete".

To correct this, I contacted AHS to reopen the service, AHS said they couldn't because contractor informed I didn't show up and now AHS needs to investigate... I think this is unacceptable because AHS was part and is informed with their own notes of who didn't show up, and should have the request open and send another contractor to fix my water pipe (ruptured). I really do not think this is a way to treat a customer and it shows how insurance companies, these days, only have call centers where the recordings and proof only lays on their side. I'm very happy with AHS, when I did my first claim ever at a point I was considering to renew the contract... Terrible company.

I asked to speak to a manager and was hung up on after being on hold for 20 minutes.

I called back and skipped the automation and got someone another operator that told me the only way to request expedited service for my broken AC was if the temperature was over 105 degrees. She also could not tell me if the company she was assigning worked on Saturday since I called on Friday night. I again asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for 25 minutes, then mysteriously hung up on again. I cannot believe AHS has let their customer service erode to this level. Then they said that the tech from Red Dragon Plumbing was gonna contact me and he did. At the time that he was coming out, it was late in the afternoon and I told him to do it another day because the traffic was so bad and I had to leave. He was fine with that and he came out the next day. He was very professional and he took care of the job. He was cool and I like him. I will also use him again. Since the repair, I've turned on the faucet a couple of times to clean it and it's been working fine

I filed another claim with AHS where they took my $100 and I got the worst service in America. This time, the electrician from McClerklin's came out and said he was gonna be at a certain time, but he was there 45 minutes later. And when he did, he stayed on the phone with some woman which was unprofessional. Then when he saw the other man that was living in the house I was living in, I could see that his nose got turned up, which was sad. But I was willing to make sure he made some money that day.

He said that the problem could be the panel box. But it was in the sunroom which is heated and it's temperature is controlled. The county looks at it as part of the house but he said that he couldn't do anything because it was not a part of the house. I also needed a fuse and a breaker for the panel box but he didn't even do that. He just left and said he couldn't do the job. A rep called out after that and I told him what happened but they never did anything about it. So I am teed to be teed about it. But despite that, I'd still recommend AHS to others. I have no problem with them because it's hard to tell if the contractor they send out will represent well.

The only thing that we didn’t like was that he didn’t wear shoe covers. I think everybody that comes in should do that. But nonetheless, the air conditioning works great now. The service from A/C Pros was to check my thermostat to make sure it was working properly as I knew it was not. I had bought another thermostat in advance in preparation, so the guy could make one trip instead of multiple trips. And when he got here, he checked out my equipment, and noted that the setpoint and the actuals weren't right on the thermostat. So, he installed a new one for me. And everything is running just fine.

I've filed a total of four claims to American Home Shield since I moved in in December. They are fine, but the only problem I had was whenever their contractor came out to work on my washer. It took them about a week and a half to get it done because they had to order parts. It didn't seem like they were real well-equipped to do the job whenever they came the first time. But, I bore with them. They told me what the timeline would be to get the part in and get it installed. And I was okay with that.

I've also noticed that the way that they bill you for it is you pay $75 upfront, and that takes care of the fees that the provider would charge. When I set it up, I set it up to where I gave them my credit card number. They send you a bill or they call you. But, how I pay is a little confusing to me. I would prefer that they have a card on file for me. All the charges would go to that card. But that didn't happen at least twice. The first couple of times I did business with them, I had to send them a check, so I did. They should make it clear how the customer pays. Is it off the card they have on record, or through an invoice sent to me.

I bought the house new 11 years ago and I never had the air conditioner serviced before. When I turned to American Home Shield to have it tuned up, I thought it was a good idea because it was 11 years old. I submitted the claim over the phone and a tech from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out. He said that the motor's bearings were bad and needed to be replaced. He also said that it was leaking oil.

AHS said that the technicians got until Monday to turn in the report and they were supposed to get back to me within 24 hours but they never called me back. I had to call Home Shield back and set up for somebody to come out here and do the repair. A guy from A-TX Express was sent out here to do the repairs and he was professional like the first tech who came out. He was scheduled to come between 1:00 and 5:00 and he arrived at about 3:30. He checked everything then said that there was nothing wrong with the air conditioner. The freon was also good and I didn't have to take care of that. In fact, all he got was that the unit was blowing cold, which it was. He replaced a 45 microfarad capacitor to the compressor as well as a 7.5 microfarad capacitor for the blower. He said they were a little old but they were fine still.

He also said that this was the third time that he came behind those other guys and this is the third time whatever they said was wrong with it wasn't necessarily the case. So that was not on AHS and from what he told me, I would never call A-US Air Conditioning back because they would charge me for things that's not wrong with the system. I don't want Home Shield to pay for things that don't need to be done either. That's not fair to them and the customers.

Other than that, I talked to some people about American Home Shield and they said that they had a couple of problems at home. They said AHS charged them $100 twice to fix two different appliances in one visit. But I have also heard a lot of good stuff about American Home Shield. I used to be with some other company and I dropped them a long time ago because they sent these contractors here that couldn't fix things. I had a washing machine and the springs were rusted on the top. They couldn't fix it and they still charged me $75. But with American Home Shield, if they can't fix it, they're gonna replace it.

She also told me that within 24 hours I'd have somebody call me and everything that she said would happen did happen. The man from Pure Air HVAC called me and scheduled the repair in four days. Initially, I thought that there was an issue with the electrical breaker that was connected to the air conditioner. But then the tech he verified that there was on issue with the breaker, and that we were controlling it with the wrong switch. He checked everything over and made sure that it wasn’t what we thought it was.

The first time this happened, I ended up paying 170 something dollars for the air conditioning company then to come out and check everything. That time, I was kinda surprised that I had to pay it when I’m paying American Home Shield for this. Back then, I never talked to them about it and I let it go. American Home Shield decided to cancel my contract and keep charging. When I called, they said that I didn’t have coverage and that they saw how I had elapsed so, they couldn’t cover anything that was broken in the meantime. I had to fight for weeks and it was very frustrating. I didn’t think it was wise for me to just cancel so, I had to stick with them but now, I've sold the house. It was a horrible situation. I started the claim with a phone call and the rep was so nasty and rude that I asked to speak to his manager. He said he had several phone calls documented and that there was nobody above him. It was shocking and I started to do research on that home warranty. I found out that this was not unusual. I told them that if I were elderly and couldn’t stand up for myself, I would be out all this money and they would be laughing all the way.

The contractors gave me feedback that AHS was very hard to deal with. I can understand that it’s their business model and that they can only look at what is specific and what’s covered in the contract and do no more. In the past, I had leaks in several of the systems in my pool and if I don’t list each and every system from the pool pump, the pool filter, the pool booster pump and the general drains, they would only pick one leak and fix that one. I would have to pay another copay. I would also have somebody come out and fix the next one. So, they don’t fix the problem before it becomes worse.

AHS is better than they were. The situation with my refrigerator worked in their favor and it went against me because I've had it for 22 years since we owned the house. So, 10 years ago was when they canceled the contract and started a whole new number in which most of the systems weren’t covered, without telling me. I had no recourse. They told me that I could always cancel but it wasn’t what it was about. I assumed that my appliances and my systems were covered and I was not gonna cancel and start over with them. I don’t know how many different supervisors and managers I had to talk to but it ended up with a call from somebody that had the clout and made it right.

I understand now that I can’t count on AHS. Still, I was able to find a couple of good contractors through them, so it hasn’t been a total bad experience. If it hadn’t been for American Home Shield, I wouldn’t have known about the pool people who are doing my general maintenance. They are a decent company. When my husband passed away, rather than being wide open for all kinds of contractors to come in and as they can overbid and take advantage of me, not knowing what was going on, I felt that the oversight by AHS was working for me and helped me to save some money. The way that home warranties work is an advantage, especially for older people but they have to really read the fine print and not have their expectations too high.

I’ve used American Home Shield for plumbing in the past and for the most part, they were positive experiences. Recently, I had a blockage somewhere in my main sewer line that was affecting the main sewer outlet. I used Pace Plumbing before with American Home Shield and outside of them for some repairs, so I wanted them on the case again. They're really good people.

I asked AHS if Pace was still on their roll and they said yes so I asked them to use that contractor if they could. My interaction with their reps at the time was good though sometimes, it's difficult for me to understand their representative, unless I go through the computer. But with the computer, I didn’t have that option of picking a service or a company that's in their list. And when I call and get routed to a call center, sometimes there’s a disconnect in the language barrier, so being on the phone sometimes is a little difficult. But the representatives themselves handled everything greatly and got the job done.

After calling AHS, I got a message from the contractor within 24 hours and they set something up for the next day. They came out pretty quickly. Also, the owner was the one that made a lot of the calls and he was very knowledgeable. Then he came out when he said he was gonna be there and his office called ahead of time saying he was en route. It gave me time to get home from work. When he got there, he did everything and performed the job excellently. He was honest as well and didn’t try to sell me a service that I didn’t need. He did what needed to be done and was upfront with me. Aside from that, he explained to me what caused the blockage. I live in an older home, so it was something that I deal with but I couldn’t handle it with the equipment I had.

I was told that the contractor would be out between 2:00 and 4:00 and he showed up at 2:00. He was nice and things worked out well. The same thing happened when I submitted a claim for something that I couldn't fix. I am pretty handy in general and that's why I got the biggest deductible that AHS has.

Last time, I called American Home Shield to fix our garage door, which opened by itself all of a sudden. Their claim process was easy. We scheduled it and the technician came and said, "There should be this little button that when you press it," he said, "that should be the problem." So, he disconnected that. Now, we don't have that button and he gave us a little garage door opener. He said he has ordered the part but it is almost three weeks now. It's taking such a long time. We called AHS and they said that they are gonna send an email to Precision Door. Apparently, I don't know if they sent an email. They didn't have the courtesy to call us back and that's where we are right now. We have been with them for 30 years and for the most part, AHS has been fantastic. We have a second home that are insured through them as well, but this is the first bad experience we've had.

AHS sent Ion Electric and they replaced the breaker fuse on the inside of the breaker box to my heating and air unit. The service with them was really good. They got it repaired quickly. The tech was very professional, nice and courteous. He had the part with him and did his job. and he left. But when it comes to heating and air situations, when it’s warmer, I don't think that they are timely in getting things like that repaired. And I feel like those are situations that possibly should be taken care of a lot quicker.

I had another repair earlier where they had Mills Electric came out and it was a repair that wasn’t gonna be covered because they were picking the wire in to the outside of the breaker box, coming into the breaker box. I guess the wiring from the outside coming into the breaker box is not covered. Mills Electric was trying to charge me an outrageous amount to do a repair that I had somebody else come out to do for almost half the price paying them. I didn't feel good about that at all because I paid $500, and I’m thinking “What would I need American Home Shield for if I still have to pay that amount of money to have a repair?”

Mills Electric, when they came out for the same repair, were gonna charge me $900 and I thought that was odd. American Home Shield didn't cover any of it. If I can get a technician out for cheaper than what I’m paying, like if I’m paying $100 per service call for someone to come out, and I pay the $62 a month, and then, I have to pay them a repair too, to me, I don’t know if it’s worth it. But the technician from Mills Electric was really good.

When I got home, I called American Home Shield and other than having to wait a long time on hold, everything went okay. The contractor couldn’t come the next day, but I knew that it’s not reasonable for a plumber. They came out in two days which is exceptional for a plumber because they usually have everything scheduled for the next day. The plumber diagnosed the problem, put in a part and fixed it in about 10 minutes. He was very nice and even gave me a little more information that I had a frost-proof connection there and told me what I should do when it got cold. Overall having American Home Shield is worth my money.

Our dishwasher was not working so we called AHS with whom we have a home warranty. Their contractor came out, did not have the right part and left. He came back again and installed a part. The dishwasher still was not working. I called AHS and they sent the same contractor out. Again, he didn't have the part and he left. He came back 10 days later with a part (now if you're keeping track, this is FOUR days I had to take time off of work to accommodate their contractor). He installed the part and AGAIN the dishwasher was not working properly (not heating up or getting soap rinsed off dishes).

So I called AHS (AGAIN) and they tried to send the SAME contractor back. After arguing with them for 20 minutes, they agreed to send a different contractor who never showed up as I took DAY FIVE off from work. I called again and asked them how many times a contractor had to fail to fix an appliance before they bought a new one and despite their contractor having been here and looking at the machine FOUR times they claimed to have no information on what the problem with it was! All told, in terms of money paid to them and time lost from work waiting for their incompetent contractors, it would have been FAR, FAR cheaper for me to never have had a home warranty and just bought a new dishwasher when this one broke down. Avoid this SCAM at all costs.

As a customer of AHS, they recommended a seasonal check of our AC. It was working perfectly, just a yearly cleaning and check. After paying $75, AHS sent out one of their vendors. Two guys came, stayed 15 minutes and proceeded to tell me it was fine but I would need to replace my unit in the event that I lost my R-22 Freon, it would not be able to be replaced. I have NEVER had a Freon leak as I maintain our unit very well. We put in the unit new, had bi-yearly checks every year. After one guy kept me in the front yard trying to sell me a new unit, another was at my unit. It has been cool, so I haven’t used the a/c.

First time I turned it on, warm air, outside unit not working! Call out another tech through AHS, at another $100 cost, only to find out the Freon copper tube had been detached and all 15-17 pounds of Freon GONE! This is inside the outside housing and oil, no moving parts, no accessibility to break it! Now, we have no A/C, we are out $175 to AHS, and AHS is refusing to do anything about it! Basically, we paid AHS $175 to render our A/C unit unusable! This also after we pay $50 per month to cover our home, paying extra to cover our A/C, $600 per year! They are a scam! I will continue to inform the public of AHS unfair business practices and misrepresentation of their services!

If the leak was coming from my wall, it would be coming out constantly. So I said "No". They then said that we were overfilling the washing machine. Today I gave them a call and they said they'll try to get someone to call me back and get someone scheduled for this leak. In a situation like that, if I have a business, I would try to fix it as soon as possible. So, I don't know if I'm gonna hear from them today. We had a bad experience with them one previous time, and I called American Home Shield and asked to re-assign it to someone else. It was re-assigned, and then those people did a perfect job. But now, I'm getting in a problem with this particular company again. I thought my default would be to switch to someone else, but it didn't happen.

I always make claims online and it's very simple, and I always get great experience with American Home Shield. This time, I checked the pipe leak and when they called, I explained to them that it's not technically a pipe leak but a faucet leak. Pennington contacted me the next day, and that's what the expectation was. But then, they scheduled next week. I usually hope it would become sooner, but then it was okay, but then they came last Monday.

The person came on time and he got to spend a lot of time because at the same time, a pool guy was doing some maintenance on the pool. He had to switch the water off, so the person waited and then he worked. The person spent almost two hours, but everything appeared great. It's just the result that's not great. It was a good effort, but the result is not satisfactory for me. I'm waiting for them to call and schedule, but if they don't call today, I don't have any other choice but call American Home Shield and try to assign someone who can come tomorrow or Wednesday because that's what happened the last time.

My garbage compactor stopped working. I called it in to American Home Shield and I was given a time fame of 24 or 48 hours. I got a text with the technician's photo and the right time of arrival. He showed up and was very nice, clean and professional. He works for a very advanced company. I liked that. He put the shoes on and he also put a piece of cloth so he would not scratch the floor. He disassembled the compactor and examined it. He said he needed some parts and ordered them. He came in a few days and installed the parts. The compactor just works perfectly. It was a very good experience and I want to thank American Home Shield.

We had a problem with our forced hot air system or the heater was not firing up consistently. So, it wouldn't stay lit. I went online to submit the claim to American Home Shield and I got two notifications. The first one said the claim was received and somebody would notify me within 24 or 48 hours. Then, the contractor reached out to me within that window and set the time. Interacting with him was great and awesome. Since the repair, we’ve turned the heat on and it has been warm. So, it seems to be okay. Having AHS is valuable. It saved us some money.

My oven went off and it kinda quit working. I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. I prefer to talk to them because they just will send some random person to your house to fix appliances. I liked the contractor they sent. The gentleman, Sammy, that came out to my house, I personally asked for him to keep coming back to my house. One, I can understand him. Two is, he's very knowledgeable about my appliances.

I had him come and fix my washer at one time. When washing clothes, it gets off kilter. One side is too heavy for the load of clothes and I had to go in there and rebalance them. He showed me how to rebalance the whole washing machine once taking that load out. He said that I just pull it towards me and it kinda throws everything back where it goes. I didn't know that information. He's very helpful and informative when he comes to fix my appliances and he's the one I always request for. It's just that I'm not really happy with AHS. They should stop going up on my payment. But I would recommend them.

I'm usually on hold for a long time if I called American Home Shield's number, so I just submit my claims online. I called last year on July 1st, and the air conditioner issue didn't get fixed until July 26. I kept calling American Home Shield and they said the contractor would be out in a day or two. It was a bad experience. I had to buy two little indoor units with little holes that stick to the window, because it took them four weeks to get a contractor out. So, that cost me around 700 dollars but American Home Shield only paid me 150 bucks. The contractor fixed the blower but they cracked a drain line so it leaked in my ceiling. I had to pay for that because I didn't call American Home Shield thinking that the contractor would gonna tear up more. These people cost me a fortune.

Recently, American Home Shield sent out On the Horizon for my air conditioner claim. The first time they came out, the tech said he put sealants in. I had to spend $390 for this. But it only lasted two weeks and it is leaking again. I called American Home Shield about this and the rep said he filled it and it was okay. The contractor was trying to charge me a service fee again so I tried to talk to the supervisor, and then American Home Shield called back and told me that I don't have to pay a service charge. I need the people in San Angelo to do it, because when they did it, they fixed it. They were very good and very quick.

We had a leak and the cold water on the faucet no matter how much we turned it, wouldn't cut off. And even when we went out to the main water thing, we couldn't turn the water off. When I submitted the claim, AHS said, "Somebody will contact you within 24 hours." It didn't even take that long. It took about 30 minutes for the plumbing people to schedule an actual appointment.

David usually comes out for us. He's done all of our leaks. We had a pipe bust, like two Christmases ago. He's installed two of our water heaters and then he came out and fixed this. He's professional, nice and prompt. So far, AHS has been excellent. We signed on with them when we first purchased the house nine years ago and we've not had any problem with them at all.

I tried to put light bulbs in there but it wouldn't work. I didn't know what to do after that, so I submitted a claim online with AHS. That went perfectly and the techs from Baystar Electric that they sent out were awesome. They called me back within five minutes since submitting the claim online and they came out the very next day. It turned out that the problem was with the ballast and a new ballast was put in. Also, the wires were loose or they had shorted, so the techs had to mess with that a little bit. I had a water heater claim with American Home Shield before. When the fella came in to replace the water heater since ours was leaking, he was working on something that had loosened up behind the wall and had to cut through the drywall. So, the second claim was in regards to the need to get behind the wall by the first plumber. They came in and replaced a little piece of the drywall and finished it off.

American Home Shield's claim process was very easy and their response time was excellent. I got a very quick response back with who was going to do the work. Both the contractors called within the same day and told me when I could expect them. A young fella from Supreme Plumbing came out and did an inspection, and then came back the next day and did the work ‘cause they had to call the claim in to AHS. He was very knowledgeable, and polite, and knew what he was doing. The second time out, he was a little short on tools because there was a unforeseen issue. I’m a car guy, so I had tools that he was able to utilize. Supreme Plumbing was very good as far as cleaning up afterwards too. Things worked out so well that when I sold my old home to my daughter and son-in-law, we put American Home Shield on it based on their efficiency.

NOTE: I WOULD RATE ZERO/NEGATIVE STAR IF I COULD, BUT I'M FORCED TO PROVIDE AT LEAST ONE STAR. Unfortunately, as a consumer you are left with no recourse once they have your checking or credit card information. There is a reason the company requires this when you submit a request for service, even if you select to pay after the service is complete. I did just that (selected the option to pay once service was complete) and the service provider was a no show. But that didn't matter... AHS charged for it (a service that needed occurred).

When I received my statement and noticed the charge it took me over an hour on the phone multiple times to get someone from AHS to agree to credit my account (they sent the request to an alternate service provider but I told them I wanted the credit on my account and would pay for the service once is occurred). They agreed they would do that. But they lied.... Instead they never credited me back for the original charge (for the service that didn't occur) and still charged me a second time once the service actually did happen. After spending another hour on the phone trying to resolve the matter with no success, I disputed the charge with my bank. But the outcome of that was that AHS claimed that I was contractually obligated to pay it so my bank was unable to assist me.

I have again contacted AHS and spoke to two separate people today...neither of which would help me and so I cancelled my contract. I'm sure this isn't the end of it as I can only imagine the penalties that they will find a way to charge me for cancelling in the middle of the contract term. Keep in mind..the service provider was a no show... I understand I would be responsible for paying the service fee if they arrived and I was not home, but that was not the case. This is blatant theft.

Living out of a mini fridge with a family of 6 is difficult and expensive to say the least.

Fast forward to today. My AC is broke and the people came out took a look and determined what was needed. They called us last week and asked if we were okay to pay the $550 needed for freon and I said yes and scheduled an appointment for today between 12:00-2:00. It’s now 5:00 and still no technician. I called at 3:00 and was told they were on the way. Upon a Google search I discovered that this company has just over 2 stars and a habit of doing this. Everything listed in the estimate was already done but they said they had to go by what the contractor said, which was a lie. The major thing here is that I was only supposed to be charged the $125.00 for a service call and I did not receive that. I was charged for an estimate which was not part of the contract. In general, I find that homeowner warranty companies are interested in perpetuating the life of old appliances and that they want to restrict their coverage as much as possible, but they are at least responsive and do intervene to restore. For example, in spring, I called for the dishwasher, the refrigerator and the dryer. The person who showed up to look at those three things denied coverage on one and replaced a couple of parts on the dishwasher. Then I was told that the dryer was not a problem they were gonna address because it would be maintenance. That particular person was cooperative, personable and certainly respectful. And then another person came for plumbing because I had an issue with the water heater and faucets. I also asked them for their special summer preventative maintenance for my air conditioner and the guy did a good job of checking that out and reporting to me that everything was okay.

However, when I submitted the claim last summer, I was on it the phone for a while and didn't get really clear responses. Also, when I'm on the phone, I would get lost in my own words sometimes. It was not very satisfactory. This time, I did it online and it worked pretty well. I could specify what I wanted to and although I didn't expect immediate response, I got one within a day so it was pretty good. Their price seems very reasonable for the coverage. However, you'd have to deal with somebody ordering a part that may take a week or two. If your appliance needs to be replaced, that could be a long time. You couldn't just walk into Lowe's and say, "I want that one." AHS has to interface with you. You can't rush the process.

Aside from the most recent claim, where I placed the order and they sent out a competent plumbing company out, the claims I had with American Home Shield were horrible. They would only contract with this really incompetent plumbing company. And then, I asked for a rekey, and I guess only one person in California does it, and when he came to do the doorknob to my garage, I went to open it and the whole doorknob came off, and I couldn't put it back together. I put out a call for a rekey again, and nothing has come of it. I want that doorknob fixed.

The rekey, I think from what I understood, that was free. A lot of the requests I’ve put out, I don't know if they kept the charges on my card. I don't know if I was refunded because nothing was done. As far as customer service goes, everything has to be automated or online, and the hold time can be a nightmare. I don't think I’ve dealt with a human because I'll be sitting on hold for a half hour. They should make more human operators available, so people don't have to sit on hold all day. Give us the opportunity to provide feedback for the companies they contract through. Apparently, something must have happened because they're contracting through a really good plumbing company now.

The townhouse is a rental property in Gaithersburg, Maryland and the tenants kept on emailing and calling the contractor who said they would get the part but disappeared. Meanwhile, I’ve been calling American Home Shield and I told them to give me someone else. They said I would have to pay $75 again. I told them that it was their responsibility at that point. They said I have to start over but I told them I was not starting over anything. I have been paying them monthly premiums and the $75 has been paid.

I have very good tenants. The husband and wife have a five-year old boy and a three-year old daughter. They were getting ticked and I had to reimburse them for all the dollars used. I told AHS that they made me look like a fool in front of my tenants and that they were gonna cost me tenants so I was gonna leave. The lady was about to let me go but she asked me if I would let her talk to her supervisor. She told me that they would get somebody else and I would not have to worry about my co-pay. They paid the second one who came out and replaced the appliance right there. It was done on their first trip. So, I blame AHS for the first contractor. AHS would do nothing. I told them to keep the company out of their database and they should take responsibility upfront. I have a lot of things to do and I don’t feel like being on the phone with AHS because I’m irritated.

We recently had an issue with our heat pump and submitting the claim was really quick and easy. All the information was relayed. The tech was very friendly and he stayed in communication with me. He made sure to let me know exactly when I could expect the part to be ready, and he was always right on time. We've been using the windows more but when we have had to kick on either the heat for a cold night, or switch it over to cooling, it seems to be working like it's supposed to. I really appreciate American Home Shield. It's definitely already come in handy.

It took them a bit longer to come out, but they did a really nice job. I would definitely recommend AHS.

I have AHS for seven years now and my experiences with them depended on the contractor that I got. I normally submit my claims on the phone and I had no issues with the reps I talked to. Recently, we didn’t have hot water, so we called American Home Shield. They sent out Street Plumbers & Rooter and the first guy who came said that it was an issue with the valve. He said he would come back in a couple of hours then he left. He also said that it would take a couple of hours for hot water to return. But a couple hours later, I still didn’t have hot water, so I had to call again. That was a Friday and the next day, he couldn’t come until the following week.

By the time the next guy came out, he said there was a recall with my water heater, which the first guy didn’t catch, and by that time I’d been without hot water for two weeks. Then he said that he needed to have the warranty specialist guy come out to fix it, so by the time that guy came out, I had no hot water for three weeks. He asked why the other guys didn’t fix it and I told him I had no idea. Then he finally repaired it. But my experience wasn't great. My water wasn’t fixed for over a month even though it was covered under a warranty.

I had a good experience filing a claim with American Home Shield. It was smooth, quick and easy. I did it online. I like being able to submit the model number. That really helps streamline things. The most recent claim that AHS serviced was for a washing machine. They sent out two contractors. They're both very professional and timely. But the first one didn’t explain what they thought the issue was and they didn’t communicate with me much after they did an evaluation. They ultimately reported to American Home Shield that they couldn’t fix the issue.

The second contractor was much more communicative and I like them much better. The technician diagnosed the problem and explained exactly what he thought it was. He was also willing to work pretty well with my schedule to come in within the next one or two days to repair it. So far, so good and the machine is still working. I also filed a claim for an AC unit and that experience was pretty frustrating. Someone came out and found that the problem was caused by the chiller. It seemed like they would be able to fix it but they got a call from the AHS claims department that it wasn’t covered. Otherwise, I had a good experience.

I ended up turning off the master valve, so I didn't have water in the house. I put in a ticket online with American Home Shield then someone called me back. At first, I was given an appointment that was a few days out but I told them that it was kind of an emergency because I didn't have water in the house. If I turned on the water, then the shower would continue to run forever. So, they escalated that to an emergency and have someone come out from United Air Temp that same day to correct the issue. The contractor was awesome and very professional. He came in, knew what he was doing, knew the exact issue, and had it resolved as soon as he could. It was a pleasant experience and so far, American Home Shield's service has been great.

But once I called and waited, the recording asked if I wanted to have my service call me back, and I opted for that option. The claims rep took the information, updated the system and got me going. It was a great experience. Also, the contractor that came provided excellent service. When he opened the top, he explained to me what the issue was. I read the book from before and the very thing that I read was what was taking place. He called around to see if there was anyone that had a new board, then he ran out to grab that, came back and did the repair.

Then, we had to wait a week for the motherboard to come in but that did not fix the issue. They needed to remove the oven but it was heavy so they said they're gonna come back with one other person. And then, AHS assigned it to someone else and a different appliance repair company came in. They diagnosed it to be some other issue. They ordered a part which is yet to come in. So, it's been a couple of weeks and the whole thing is not resolved yet, but it's going along. Also, my microwave wasn’t working but that was resolved immediately. I'm gonna cancel my American Home Shield warranty. I had a plumbing issue and did not have a good experience with the first person they sent out. AHS said that they could send out somebody else but then it would cost me if that person came up with the same diagnosis. We got into a discussion about the fact that the plumber they initially sent didn't even look at the problem. He just walked in the house and then said "Yeah I see the problem. I have to submit the report", and that was the end of it. He then came back and said that the claim wasn't gonna be approved because it was not normal wear and tear. I asked how much wear and tear the faucet has had such that it is broken. Eventually, I got a second opinion and that time the guy who came out was terrific. I got the faucet fixed.

The next week my air conditioner went out. AHS sent the best person ever and I love the contractor they sent. However, the thing I didn't like was that they said that they pay $10 a pound for Freon which is $80 a pound. So, $10 is really nothing and it would cost me $1,300 to fix the AC. The AC unit is old. We bought the house a year ago, and it was from '78. So, talking to the air conditioning people, I just felt like I don't want to spend $1,300 on a unit that next year, we won't be able to get that same Freon. I don't think I'll use AHS's warranty anymore. It was $240 to fix a faucet on the sink. With the other company they sent it would be $500. I haven't been really impressed, so I'm gonna drop it.

Maybe it’s just me and I’m missing something, but I’m not usually totally computer-illiterate. But once I called, things went fine. Their reps are always really good and are quick to get a contractor out. The most recent one took a little longer than normal though, but it was on a weekend so that’s fine.

The contractor was awesome and explained to me what the issue was. I was worried because although our built-in refrigerator still looks brand new, it's already 16 years old. They're super expensive, plus there’s a cabinet built around it. When I started looking if I was gonna have to replace it, I couldn't find one the same size. So, I was gonna have to have the cabinet work done to fit a new refrigerator in and make it look right. But they found the part that was discontinued for me and got the refrigerator fixed, so I was super pleased. Now, it works perfectly and like brand new.

There was a water leak to the ceiling from my upstairs shower into my half bath on the floor below. When I filed a claim for that online, the process was extremely easy. D & D Plumbing came out and I had them come back ‘cause the leak was still there. Each time, they called me quickly and it took them 4 hours. But I found that the available time was 4 or 5 days out and they cannot ever immediately come so I had to wait up about four days. I didn’t really ask if they could accommodate me, but they had several timeslots available on the days that they had available so that was nice. I was just kinda disappointed on the timeframe.

The first guy was here for a while and went through everything, but the issue was still there. Maybe he didn’t look out things thoroughly. Then the second guy who came out was very thorough and have looked to where the water stains were to tell exactly where the water leak was coming from. He told me what to do to fix it and I was able to fix it. It was a really easy fix. Still, I have no reason considered where the second guy has found to be an issue which was just cracks in the grout. Other than that, everything seems to be doing good with the way exactly where it took to and it seemed to be fine now. I’m gonna get the hole that the plumber had cut out in the ceiling patched.

The technician checked it and found all sorts of problems, and he contacted American Home Shield. They discussed it, and they decided it was too much to fix so they replaced it. And then the guy came back in another time for our microwave that had its door and handle broken, and he tried finding a part.

I had to submit the claim on the phone because they said I had a past due amount from a service that I had requested but no one ever showed up, so I couldn't pay anybody to do a service. And Sears had been the best they've ever sent out. With the dishwasher, we had an issue because they didn’t want to install it because of a hose going underneath the cabinet or behind the cabinet. AHS had to send somebody else out. They dropped it off, and then somebody else actually came out and installed it. The person that actually came and did it did very well. Everything's been operating wonderfully since the repair.

We’ve had excellent experiences with American Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I’m gonna renew the contract because they had done that great of a job. We had a home warranty before that was horrible. They didn’t wanna fix anything. When our washing machine went out, two different things were wrong and they said they would only cover one and we had to pay the other one to get it fixed. I called in and was told that a company would call me in 24 to 48 hours to set an inspection. I could not believe what I was hearing. I am supposed to have raw sewage sit in my basement for that long before someone would even call and set an appointment.

I ended up hiring someone myself, for cheaper than the service call, and had it done in a few hours. I went on to ask them if I had a furnace go out in the middle of winter was their policy still to have a wait of 24 to 48 hours just to get an appointment and that was confirmed. I called to cancel my service and the customer service was horrible. I understand that they no longer need or care if I am a customer but I do have friends and family out there that I would never send their way. I work in the service industry and I ever treated my customers the way this company does I would be out of business in a heartbeat.

AHS desperately took every action to DENY coverage. Their technician showed up after 4 long days, failed to properly diagnose the problem, and stuck us with a $100 bill. They said they wouldn't cover the problem with my garage because of a problem with my "springs" even though it was very obvious that the motor itself had failed. Literally the very next day I was able to have a second company come out and fix the problem by replacing the motor. The second company even said the springs were totally fine.

I then presented all this information to AHS who still denied the claim, and failed to reimburse the $100 service call. The entire experience took hours more of my time than it should have, and resulted in incompetent handling of a claim that should have been pretty straightforward. This company will look for whatever reason they can to deny your claim and save their bottom line. Look elsewhere.

Updated on 05/15/2019: Went round and round with American Home Shield on replacement for products they deemed needed to be replaced. They kept offering very cheap products stating that is what the contract says even after asking every rental agent about it. Their response, feature for feature, no matter quality. Finally asked about cash out in lieu, but never got a value from them as their plumbing company, Plumbers Inc. stated it would be $210.00 to have them install my replacement faucet and shower head for a total of $310.00 including my original service fee.

The next day, received a call from Plumbers Inc. stating they wanted to do a re-evaluation of my repair needs and were sending a supervisor to inspect. Casey from Plumbers Inc had a totally different attitude from anyone else I had to deal with. He agreed these was a very high quality faucet and shower head and said he would try and locate the parts I had researched to make the repairs. Three weeks later after almost daily calls, the parts came in and Casey returned to fix the issues with both my faucet and installed a replacement shower head he had located. He is professional and the only one I had contacted who took a personal interest in getting the repair done professionally, fairly, and correctly.

Total time for completion of service call --- 5 1/2 weeks. Total frustration with American Home Shield and their vendor, Plumbers Inc. -- 150%. Can't rate negative numbers. Be aware that if you deal with American Home Shield, they are in business to save themselves money and not care about the customer. Don't know if I will be renewing my contracts without written clarification of quality of replacement parts and items.

Original Review: Have had two properties under warranty for a number of years due to very high cost appliances, plumbing fixtures and systems. Have experienced very low quality service companies contracted by AHS. They do minimal work to repair and use cheap parts trying to save money for warranty company. Recently had issue with kitchen faucet and shower head. Waited 11 days for them to tell me the faucets need to be replaced, and they want to provide cheap replacements (current cost of same items are $1100.00 and $800.00 respectively). Still no resolution as this is unacceptable! Wish I could give them a zero rating.

I filed a claim to AHS because there was a leak in the overflow valve. Will, the tech who came out, was really good. After they came out and identified that the air handler was bad, it went fairly quick. My experience with AHS has been all right. There was a little trouble in getting the contractors out though, but that's all.

I lost all the heat in my appliance, and the light bulb had gone out. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield and the experience was smooth and simple. I had to do it on the phone with an agent because they had an error on the contract. They had one appliance that was not even supposed to be on there. So they took care of that. They fixed the error, and then I went ahead and processed everything on the phone with a representative. The people that came to my house were very good, cordial, and made me feel comfortable. I was happy with the service. I'm not too happy with the price that I'm paying compared to the person who referred me to American Home Shield. Now, I live in New York and she lives in Colorado, so I was told that the price is gonna be much higher because I live in New York, which I don't understand that. I'm paying twice the amount just because I live in New York.

Everybody at AHS has been great. Whether I submit my claim online or the few times that I've had to call about the other issue, everybody has been fine. They worked with me, they tried to fix it, and I have no issues at all. And that’s why we keep the service and recommend it because, as everything, it's a little expensive, but it's still cheaper than fixing and replacing something.

We submitted a claim for our KitchenAid refrigerator. There are baskets that you pull in and out once you pull the whole thing out, and those rails were stuck. We could not get them out. The fella came out, and he said that it was something about the part itself. The ball bearings had worn out and it couldn’t be fixed. He said he would order the part, which he did and it came in within a week. He came out a day later at my convenience and fixed it. He was a very pleasant man named Greg. He's been here before. And I can't say enough good things about the service that I received from them. We really had issues with our appliances, mostly, and Advance Appliance has always called. They're prompt, courteous, efficient and they get everything done just like they say they're gonna do it. If we didn’t have AHS, I would call them myself if I needed something.

Months ago, I also had an issue with the toilet, and it cleared itself up before the next day. I called AHS up and told them I cancelled with Advance Appliance. Everything was fine. But since then, I called three different times and they keep taking it away and then putting it back on my bill like I owe it. They said something about my billing has changed, and they just can't get it to stay there. The money was refunded. But then, they keep sending me a bill online. And every time I'd call, they'd say, “Yes, it shouldn’t be there.” But when it pops up, I can't do it online. And that’s the problem. Hopefully, it's been taken care of this time. But otherwise, service has been great. I've recommended AHS to a few people because we're very happy with everything.

My garage door wouldn't go down and the top panel looked like it was out of alignment. I got inside and I looked, and a bunch of the wheels had broken off the garage door. So, I called American Home Shield and got a hold of their contractor. He called me really quickly and made an appointment to see me the very next morning. He came out, saw what the problem was then called back and talked to AHS. That's how we found out that the things that were broken weren’t covered.

The garage door as well as the wheels ought to be something that's covered. It's not like it's exceedingly expensive as it cost me 175 bucks. Additionally, something was wrong with the sensor lights which were covered by the warranty. He replaced those and fixed all the wheels. He also put new wheels on. He was really nice. He did a great job and I'd love to have him again. Overall, I've been really pleased and I've told several people about American Home Shield.

He impressed the heck out of my mother and she's not an easy woman to please. She said he came in, was very professional, knew exactly what he was doing, got it done, and was out within half hour. When I submitted my claims with AHS, I did it online because if you go by the phone, you’re gonna be on hold for three-plus hours. So their phone process sucks, but their online process is great. Also, their contractors came out within 48 hours since the claims were submitted.

When I bought the property in July of 2018, the AHS plan was already paid for up through April, and then I renewed it this April. I called them to submit a claim when our garage door openers didn’t work right and the experience was very easy. The rep was very good and the contractors were out fairly quickly. Everything went well when the contractors came. They were very friendly, got right to work, and they found a problem in the first door opener. But they couldn’t fix it with what they had there so they came back four days later with new parts, and installed that, and it’s been working perfectly since. However, the center garage is acting up right now. We just didn’t notice that until recent. We wanted to wait a while and see how it continued to act, if it would come back on and work perfectly. But every so often, it doesn’t work. But my experience with AHS is good, overall. I'm happy with it.

I'm a landlord and my tenant was telling me that the AC wasn't working. I contacted AHS and had another vendor referred to me. I called them on a Friday but then they never responded. The following Monday night, the vendor never bothered to call. So, I called American Home Shield and I requested another vendor, which we had worked previously. I called them, and within like an hour, Michael from Subcool was at the house. I'm very happy with him. He was awesome. Moreover, I had to pay out of pocket and Michael only charged me 350. The other fool wanted $850. So, when I was talking to Michael, I thought that he was more honest and that he doesn't overcharge me.

AHS should use Subcool instead of their other contractor. Twice I requested service from the other contract, the second being something with my tenant's furnace and their tech never got to it right away. My tenant told me that the furnace wasn't working and I thought whether to create another order as that would be another $100 fee. Still, I gave AHS a call and Subcool was there within the hour. Their tech had it fixed and said that it was just loose wiring.

Since the repair, the performance of the AC has been excellent. I'm always gonna use Subcool. They at least text or call me and give me a timeframe when they're gonna come. With the other vendors, I would even have to call the office as I would get no response from them. I'm a driver and sometimes I lose signal. The other vendors may have tried to call me but then if they call me once, they should leave a message at least. All I have was some missed calls.

My brother-in-law told me about American Home Shield, and I was hesitant. When I got it, it gave me a clear mind. If I know any other homeowner, I would highly recommend it because it'll give them peace of mind. Things happen in the house and sometimes you may not have enough money to cover it. Some of the others will not cover what American Home Shield covers. American Home Shield is the best that people can do to protect themselves financially.

I’ve had American Home Shield on and off for probably 20 years. One time, my refrigerator was not working. They sent me somebody three times who didn’t know what he was doing. In the interim, somebody always had to not go to work in order to be there to meet him. So, we actually all lost money waiting for a guy who didn’t know what he was doing. The fourth time, AHS sent me a different contractor and told me that if it was the same problem, then I would be billed again. But it was a totally different one, and after the fourth visit, it was fine. He fixed the problem in about 20 minutes.

Recently, I had a dishwasher claim. I called AHS. They sent somebody out within 48 hours and he was great. He was in, knew what was wrong, fixed it, left, no nonsense, which I really liked. Everything’s running smoothly since. American Home Shield relies too much on the internet and I think we’ve lost the personal touch with customer service. But I've stuck with them. It’s like a safety net.

I made a claim with AHS a few weeks ago. The garbage disposal was leaking dirty brown liquid under the sink and it smelled horrible. Then the toilet was running when nobody had flushed it. It’s easy-peasy to file a claim with AHS online, but there's no room for me to write a comment if it’s not necessarily the exact situation. But when they call, they always ask. So I described it to the company that called me and asked me to describe it before they would come out. The technician was a super sweet little guy. He had everything fixed in no time. He just did his thing and had me sign something when he was done. Everything has been absolutely perfect since the repair and I think it works better than it ever did.

I usually get either an email or a text message with who AHS will send out, and if they don’t contact me, to call them within 24 hours. And I usually hear from the company within that 24 hours with an appointment on when it’s good for me, and I usually receive a time too. I really like it when they send me the email or the text with the picture of the technician who will come out. That has happened a few times, and that’s awesome. I’m a stay-at-home mom and I love having a home warranty. It is the best investment if you’re gonna own a home and if a neighbor asks about American Home Shield, I'll tell them that they definitely need to get it.

It took like five days for the contractor Pro Appliance to come out but I was really satisfied with their people so I was willing to wait for that. Their contractor did a fine job and they did what they were supposed to do. The guy was very professional, was easy to talk to and was very helpful.

Unfortunately, Pro Appliance couldn't repair the unit. He put something in and said that if the board comes in, he could replace it within a five-day period. But I told him I was closing on the house very shortly so he said we would know in three to five days. When they get the board in, they test it and make sure everything functions properly on it. They tried but couldn't get the board because of the age of the appliance and they didn’t have any more of these boards to send out, so American Home Shield put in a new appliance for me for the new buyers. I signed up with American Home Shield's service again. It was the $600 plan.

Our furnace completely broke down. We contacted AHS and then they assigned Budget Heating. Budget then had a technician come over. That time, I was not there. He said a circuit board burned out, and he replaced it with a new one. After he left, however, it was warm, so we didn't turn the furnace on for a couple of days. But then, it became cold, so we turned on the heater. It came on the first time, but then after the temperature was reached, the furnace stopped and the heater was not able to get it back on at all. It was trying to start but for some reason, it couldn't start with the fire. Despite this, the gas was still supplying. We smelled gas and we also heard the engine. It's something like the engine was trying to do something. It was a mildly pounding sound. We were a little bit scared, so we turned it off.

After a couple of hours, we tried again and the same thing happened. So, we contacted AHS and then the AHS company assigned Budget again. The tech they sent could reproduce the problem and then spent two hours looking around and around. He then said he fixed it. We didn't use the furnace that day, but the second day, the engine was exactly the same. So, we contacted AHS again. But this time, they sent a senior technician. He used the internal mechanism to recycle it on and off, and he didn't see any problems. However, he advised me to record if the problem happens again. Two nights ago, it happened again, so I made a recording about the situation. In the recording, we could hear the pounding sound and I also recorded there was no fire in the furnace.

In the past, Budget has been very professional. But for the first few appointments, they have sent junior technicians. Still, AHS has always been very prompt in assigning contractors and we like those that they send very much. In the past, there were some contractors that were not that professional at all and they have a very bad reputation on the internet. But, Budget is extremely reputable in the local area and we trust them.

I submitted a claim on the phone with AHS and my experience with their rep was good. I had to complain about Four Seasons Heating and Plumbing because they didn't do the job. They said that they had to change the whole sink and they gave me a replacement, which was way different than what I have in the bathroom. And the person who took calls for them was very angry and got easily irritated as if you work for them.

I called AHS to complain about that and they told me either I could fix it and they would pay me for that, or I could go with another one of their contractors, Redhawk. I decided to go with Redhawk and they turned out to be excellent. When they called, I gave the okay to replace the other ones. Then they came, checked out the faucet, and did the job more professionally. So far, my son told me it’s dripping a little bit but not like before. AHS also sent Four Seasons here a year ago for a bathroom seat and the guy that came did not wanna take off his shoes. But it was muddy outside and he did not have a shoe cover. He did not listen to my wife and just kept going in muddying the carpet. AHS should not use them. They're not plumbing.

I called American Home Shield to get their $75 AC tune-up. But in the midst of getting the tune-up, I decided to check my unit. When I went upstairs, my unit was down. I usually check it every year but when I went up and checked it and let it run for about a day, it had ice. I called AHS and Cutting Edge came out and did the repair. The tech went outside and checked the pressure on the air conditioner and he noticed that it was a pound and a half low on Freon. For anything over a pound, I had to pay the price. I had to pay AHS $100 for the tech to come out, plus I had already paid the $75 for the AC tune-up. But the AC tune-up was scheduled for the 17th of May, so that gave me an opportunity to go on ahead and cancel it because the unit is fine. And the $10 for Freon was deducted from the $75. The tech also put some Stop Leak in it because he said I may have a leak in the line there, and it’s running fine now.

I’ve been with AHS for five years now and I never had problems with them even as far as them refunding my $75. They said it would take between seven to 10 working days before it shows up. However, it’d be convenient to have the $100 deductible automatically taken out since, one way or the other, you’re gonna have to pay $100 if they come out. On the other hand, they’ve already taken the $75, but the guy isn’t coming out here until the 17th of May for my AC tune-up and that’s an inconvenience to me. If AHS is gonna take it, take it two days before. But rules are rules.

My AC was starting on but the motor inside where my compressor was was not turning around. I did a claim online with American Home Shield and navigating through their website wasn’t a problem. The only problem I had with it was that they told me that someone would call me. But they didn’t call me. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas just showed up. And I had to rush leaving from work and run over there so that I would not miss it. This is the time of the year when you don’t need to have your air conditioning not working.

The service and the interaction with that contractor was absolutely superb. He came out and he showed me what was wrong. He told me that a lot of times guys will come out and look at that motor that turns the fan around, and what they’ll do is look at it and say, “Hey! Well, this is the one that goes on it.” He said he goes by the book. When he went by the book, he found that the one that he had to put on was different from the one that the last person had put on. Maybe that’s why this one went out like it did because my air conditioner was only worked on a year ago. He said that he had to go by the book, went by the book, got the right motor, and put it on, replaced a couple of other parts that I don't know the name of, and he got it working in a minimum amount of time.

Since the repair, our AC is very cold, it’s cutting off when it's been on too long or when it reaches the temperature that we desired and it shuts off, and then it cuts back on when it gets too hot, and it's working perfectly. It was a solid good experience. The guy knew what he was doing, and he was friendly, and it worked out perfectly for me. The only problem that I had is that I wanted to be notified so that I could have met him there. That way, he wouldn’t have to wait on me. We've been with American Home Shield over 20 years, and there had been times where I was dissatisfied, but by and large, when I look at the body of work, what has been replaced and what has been taken care of, the good times outweigh the bad.

Whenever I submit claims with American Home Shield, I like talking to their reps because then I know I'm gonna get who I want. I don't always get to choose the contractors I'd like to use, but most of the time I could. If it's not a bad emergency and I know there's one on their list that I like, then I would request to have that contractor. The one we had from Service Pro for our furnace last fall was very good. He was very upfront and honest. Before him, we had another company that did the inspection for us, and they told us we needed to replace the furnace and probably the air conditioner. The guy was a little creepy and I requested not to have him.

I asked American Home Shield for a second opinion, and the fabulous Service Pro representative was sent out. I asked him what he would do if my problem happened with his own family and he was risking safety, and then he told me that he honestly didn’t see anything wrong with my furnace. So, I appreciated that. We didn't have any problems this winter.

I didn't like what American Home Shield did to have the air conditioners inspected. They should be able to do inspections on both of them for the same service fee instead of charging me double. Also, when calling American Home Shield, it's always frustrating waiting on the phone or trying to get to a representative. I don't have a problem with holding, but having to go through that whole list of computerized things is frustrating for me. I just put my phone on speaker and go about my business. Also, I know the rates have to be boosted up but we're now almost where we could call a private contractor if we wanted to have things done. Their service rates are expensive. Other than that, it's easy filing claims with them and their reps are very professional.

I’d recommend American Home Shield. My most recent claim with them was for a washing machine. There was a gas valve that had to be changed out and my experience when submitting the claim for that was reasonable. We had to switch who they sent us initially to a different company because the ratings on the first company were bad, but there was no problem switching it over to another one. The contractor provided great service. They had the washing machine fixed quickly and all taken care of. Everything is working well now.

I had a pipe problem where the water from the pipe from my bathroom sink came loose from the inside my walls and it leaked downstairs to the basement. I called American Home Shield over the phone, and the rep was very nice. She had sent somebody to come. But the guy that came the first time just looked at what needed to be done, saw water everywhere, and he just walked back out. So, she had to call another guy to come out, and they came out and fixed it. It took a few hours. And then they came back a couple days later and did the work on my sink. This second guy from Aaron Plumbing and Heating was really nice. Also, he didn't really have to do the shut off valve, but I thanked him a lot for building me a shut off valve. Overall, I'd recommend them.

One time, there was something wrong with my water. When I was in the bathroom and I had the water running, I couldn't run the water in the kitchen too. Another time, the light in my room kept going out. It would just come on and off. AHS' contractors came and fixed those issues. Most recently, I was trying to see what was wrong with my AC unit. I couldn't put in a claim for it online to American Home Shield so I did it over the phone. At the time, I was going with another company and I read reviews online but then the rep told me that BestWay Heating and Air was their best company. So, I said I would speak with them.

When they called me, I wasn't by my phone so I kept calling them back to try to set up an appointment. I could never get anyone. When their rep finally answered the phone, she had me on hold for 10 minutes, then she hung up. So, I called back to American Home Shield, and I told them that I didn’t want them coming to my house because I can never get in touch with them. Their rep kept telling me that I couldn't switch out companies and that he would have to call BestWay and see if they would cancel. I responded saying I didn't want him to call the contractor to see if they would cancel. Instead, I didn't want them to come and I wanted to switch to some other company.

Eventually, after me getting mad, he went ahead and canceled my appointment with BestWay and then sent another contractor out. He said that he couldn’t put the refrigerant in it. He tried, but it came back out ‘cause there’s a hole in my AC and it’s a hole in the inside somewhere in the system. He couldn’t fix it and he's saying I need a whole new unit. While I don't know what AHS is gonna do, I'm still satisfied with them. Everything always gets done.

On our recent claim, we had two people come out, and they diagnosed two different things. We have one company come out for a leak and they pinpointed it to our toilet, but then the leak continued. The other one came out to do our water heater. From what they told us, there was a leak on the inside of the water heater. We have two water heaters, and one was completely rusted, and that would be a total replacement. The second water heater was just like it usually does. It looks it didn’t have any issues but there was the drain can that leads outside where you can see the water coming out of the pipe and it was almost like a faucet was on, the water was just flowing straight out of there. That one was just repairable.

We’ve had American Home Shield for 6 years now and we have the service on our rental home as well. My husband usually submits claims online, but when we open a ticket and if we have to change something or ask something else, it’s difficult trying to actually talk to a live person. Their phone tree is a little wonky, but there’s no option really to just talk to a representative.

They’re usually pretty responsive. They tell right on that call who is coming out for the service, but then they immediately are showing up for a service in five minutes. There’s no real time to say, “Oh, is there’s somebody that has a better rating?” But we’re not usually given any options either. Because when we had a claim for the water heater, we found online people leaving a few bad reviews for the company that came out to replace it and we don’t have a whole lot of insight on what’s doing the job right, so it was concerning to us. We were watchful for a few days, but we haven’t seen any issues.

It makes you nervous about doing the work through that vendor and whether or not you should just maybe take the cash payout and find somebody else with a better reputation. They have a lot of vendors in the area, but maybe reviewing the quality of the vendors could be probably improved their service a little. Other than that, we’re happy with the service and we have recommended American Home Shield to our friends.

I even had the people that installed it, which was Best Buy, come back out and troubleshoot the wireless component. And their tech told me that everything was fine. I also had been trying to keep my every-six-months inspection done to make sure I keep my unit up to par as well. But I still had complaints. Then this gentleman from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out, found one of the problem, and had the part to fix it. He's my man. Our washer was not getting the water in, so the electrician from Roth came in, and he checked everything. He told us that the drum in the washer had to be repaired, and after checking it, he said that it would cost more to repair the washer than it would to replace it. AHS replaced it and it was no trouble at all. It was a pretty quick turnaround time, too. The electrician put in a report, and then we got a call telling us what we needed to do, where we needed to go online to see the different washers that were being offered. And they talked us through it, how to go about doing it, and we picked what we wanted, and that was it.

The AHS reps have always been excellent and the technicians sent have been absolutely wonderful as well. And this is our third contract with AHS. And then it was icing up. So, I knew I needed it to get fixed before the summer got here. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. There was a leak underneath our sink. I filed the claim over the phone and the AHS rep I talked to was good. She got a contractor on the same day and it was really fast. American Plumbing & Drain came out and the guy was okay. His communication skills weren't that good and he has a really thick accent. It's hard to get a straight answer too from these contractors about what they would recommend. We're trying to decide if we need to install an air gap or not. People are just very wishy-washy and like they're, "Yes, you could. You might have to drill a hole." We're a little worried that there's gonna be another leak 'cause we don't have the air gap.

We got a second opinion from a different plumber and again, it was like 50-50. Half people get it and half people don’t. Some people don't like the bubbles that come out of the air gap when washing dishes. We're new homeowners so we're super paranoid about leaks and stuff. We're in limbo right now and we're gonna wait and see if we get another leak.

I always call in on the phone 'cause I don't know if the services are gonna be covered or not. In the last one that we called in for, a light stopped working up in the ceiling. The contractor came out and then they looked at the switch but it wasn't part of the switch. Then they said that they don't help with wires in the wall or in the ceiling so we had to call a separate electrician because that wasn't covered under the warranty. The electrician looked at the switch and pulled the cover off. But then, they couldn't fix the light because the wiring was in the attic and they had to get into the attic. When I was making the booking, the person that I talked to on the phone could have said like, "They can help with the switch. But if the wires are in the wall, they can't help with anything behind the wall."

Someone came out and did the repair but within a week or so, it quit working. At that point, the service technician said that something would have to be replaced on the stove but American Home Shield said that they're gonna have to replace the whole oven. The technicians were great though, and Comanche Appliance was awesome.

I also had a washing machine that quit on me and American Home Shield was gonna replace it with a subpar washer. It didn’t even come close to the one that I had, which was a Kenmore Elite. I even provided them with the serial number and the model number of my washer but they still would not look into all of the amendments that were on it. It was a little frustrating that I called and told them that I had sent them the model number from my machine and that their replacement wasn't comparable but then the rep went, "Well, that's all I've got." So I had to list every detail that was on that washing machine just so they would replace it with a comparable washer.

You have to do all of this ridiculous jumping through hoops to get a replacement that's comparable to what you have or one that's exactly the same thing that you have. And I just don’t agree with that. I'm a pretty busy person. I don’t have a whole lot of free time and for me to sit there and have to go over the details of my appliance, letter by letter, to then regurgitate that to American Home Shield when all they would have to do is punch that model number in the computer and it would give them a comparable unit. Instead, I had to do that for them and I don’t think that's right.

I also actually went online and looked at some of the comments people had had and they were similar. They had to give American Home Shield every detail if they were not gonna replace a unit with the same brand because they wouldn't replace it with a Kenmore. That's the thing that I really didn’t appreciate either. They wouldn't replace an appliance with another Kenmore. They kind of focused on Whirlpool products. They replaced my washer with a Whirlpool and since my oven is a Whirlpool, that's probably what I'm gonna get. But they had given me a model number and when I pulled it up on the internet, it's Whirlpool but it's not the same one I have.

I sent a response email about some of the features that I did not see on the model and I let them know. But I shouldn’t have to do that. I should be able to trust they're going to replace like for like. At the end of the day, if they replace it with a substandard model, I'm not getting what I had and that's not the reason I have insurance. If I go out and have an accident in my car, the insurance company is not gonna replace it with a substandard. They're gonna give me a replacement for what I've got. As far as insurance companies go, most of it's a racket anyway. But the warranty is, evidently, pretty valuable because I've had to use it twice now. And I would recommend American Home Shield because I've had other ones that weren’t as good.

The service tech was professional and everything is good now. I’m happy with the service I receive from American Home Shield over the years. I have also recommended them.

Getting through on the phone with American Home Shield is difficult. I went to filing the claim online because it was easier. It seems like every time I call, I have problems getting to the right person, or the person I reach isn’t the person I need to talk to, then I have to be transferred. The last time I called, it wasn’t a good experience. Otherwise, the experiences have all been good.

I was very pleased with Crispy Air & Heating. The service guy handled the service very well. My conditioning unit was making a loud, clunking noise, and there was nothing wrong with it. The guy said it was just the way the power surged. But there were no broken parts, and he said it was in a really good condition. He cleaned it all up. He was very courteous, very efficient, and very good.

Our central air unit was leaking freon. I called American Home Shield and it took a while to get everything processed. My issue was with the Indian department that they sent me to when I called. There was a bit of a language barrier there because I speak redneck and the rep spoke English as a second language. Still, they sent out two different technicians who were great. They were easy to get along with and did a fantastic job. My unit was fixed within a month and I didn’t have to pay but $225 out-of-pocket for a new coal furnace and complete unit, so I'm happy.

This has been the third time that I called AHS to fool with my central air unit and they have tried charging it with Freon a few times. I just didn’t wanna keep pumping Freon into it and it cost me $300 each time to do it. This last time, I told them that I knew what was wrong with it and so did the contractors. I said that if AHS wasn't gonna fix it, I'm gonna fix it myself and cancel the warranty. AHS then did what they were supposed to do.

Recently the broiler and the oven top weren't working, and filing a claim for it online was super simple. It took a day for a service tech to come out which was amazing. He was spectacular and super professional. He has been here before, so it was nice to have the same guy again. When he moved the oven, it started working so it wasn't broken. Everything is working fine now. I have been so impressed with my service from everybody at American Home Shield.

I have a washing machine that somebody came out to fix. It was working when he left but when I went to do the laundry later that evening, my washing machine would not turn on. So now, I'm still in the middle of an open claim with American Home Shield. Also, the hours where a tech was able to come out were very limited as far as when he was available. It's taking a long time. But he was really nice, respectful and careful with the way that he was in the house.

Whenever a service guy comes out, there is a four-hour window that I have to make myself available which means I have to take an entire day off of work and that is difficult. It's also a little bit frustrating when I'm asking for what will be my financial responsibility or what I could be expecting if an entire appliance needed to be replaced, there is no straight answer. There should be some more straightforward answers even if it was just a general range to be able to set expectations and plan financially. Still, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield.
