American Home Shield does not care about their customers and could care less if their broken appliance gets fixed or not. I have called NUMEROUS times to have someone come fix my AC. The first time, 04.09.19, the unit was low on freon. Then a month later, 05.15.19, my ac stops working again, not the freon this time but the tech says he couldn't diagnose the problem because there was nothing wrong with it. Third time, 05.24.19, tech says it might be something electrical with the unit in the attic. Since AHS does not have the detailed diagnosis report from Total Air Care, who was assigned to my case all 3 times, they cannot and will not help me and get an emergency service or other company out here, especially on this Memorial Day weekend.

Bottom line, it's 100° outside today and tomorrow and I have no AC and no one seems to care. Worst first experience with AHS. More than likely, I will be cancelling the policy since they are useless to begin with. Oh, and good luck trying to talk with a person who actually understands you vs just repeating everything you say.

Read the reviews and trust them: this company is the worst. BBB alone has THOUSANDS of negative complaints. My AC broke, one rep stated “emergency” temperatures in Florida was 82 degrees, and then hung up on me when I wanted to speak to a supervisor. Called back, the next said 105... 105 degree temperatures outside is when they consider it an emergency. I work in property management, we call out at 78 or higher. I was shocked.

Anyways, they sent no one, scheduled nothing, and never called back within their 4-hr window as promised. I had to call them, then I was informed I had to fix it on my own accord and they would reimburse. I received a letter today saying now they aren’t reimbursing after I got the repairs done by a local, licensed professional that was not on their laundry list of companies I couldn’t use. So, I cancelled, less than 60-day into the contract.

Have been a customer for 5+ years and requested service on washer. Service technician visited and recommended to replace the washer. AHS took almost 2 weeks to just review the recommendation. During this 2 week period they never bothered to call me and provide a status. When I called, help desk associate was horrible and with an accent is hard to understand. All this process took more than 2 weeks. Still waiting to hear from AHS.

We have had this service for years. They have come out again to work on central air conditioner. We had to pay the service fee and then the contractor states it will be 300.00 dollars more for recharge because the company doesn't pay for it. And he can put stop leak in it again which they have done before. He would not fix the unit. Stated it would cost about 1700.00 to fix it right and that American Shield wouldn't pay because they want the customer to be blamed for the problems. That way they don't have to pay. I am so upset with this company and would not recommend it to anyone. This company is nothing but a cash machine for American Shield and are so crooked they couldn't lay in a round house.

American Home Shield has helped with other things, and it hasn't been a problem. I had a situation with my garbage disposal in my rental property and the contractor came out and took care of it. It's just this one particular situation with the sump pump that's really an issue. MoreThan Plumbing first came out and looked at it, and they said everything was fine. So, I contacted the insurance company, had them come out, clear the water damage and air it out. The next day, the sump pump acted up again.

When I called the plumbing company again, they told me more work needed to be done. I asked the technician how come they didn't tell me that the first time because I had already spent money from my insurance company. I was already at $10,000 usage of my money. So, now I have to go back, spend some more money, and the problem is still not solved. I still have water in my basement. I was getting frustrated because they were saying that American Home Shield won't cover the work that needs to be done. The technician was very arrogant about it. He was saying that he had to get permission from American Home Shield to do the work. He never got back with us and say if it is a go or not a go. It was just left up in the air. This happened around end of April and we haven't heard back from him since.

I had a problem with the air conditioner. I always have my student's dad come out to do just the maintenance for it as he's an air conditioner and heating repairman. He said that a mouse decided to crawl up and touched all four points on the capacitor so the mouse is dead and so is the air conditioning. I submitted an online claim to AHS and it was easier to do that. Aries Mechanical came out and were quick, did the repair, and replaced the capacitor.

My smoke detector was chirping recently and it had been going off for four days while I was away from the house. I’ve got a 10-foot ceiling and I use a cane to get around, so there was no way I could get up there. The tech from Schematic came out, checked it and replaced the battery. He was very professional, polite and down-to-business. I had a little issue with American Home Shield in the beginning on the phone, but it was just a misunderstanding. I apologized and the rep was gracious enough to accept it.

Both of our AC units quit working, which was not good. I got online to submit a claim to American Home Shield and scheduled it. The company texted 10 minutes later and then, they called me within a few hours and set up a general time frame. They also called the day before and on the day itself. It was great. They did a good job confirming everything. This is my first experience with a home warranty company and the service guy was fantastic. He was professional and I didn’t feel like he was trying to do unnecessary repairs. However, the warranty did not cover what I needed to cover. The repairman said what needed to happen but it wasn’t what AHS was gonna cover.

The units were 14 to 15 years old and it needed more than what the warranty covered. So, it was not worth it for me and I’m considering canceling it. It broke again the day before so, we had to go all day without air on Monday. Yesterday, the repairman said that a new blower was needed up in the attic, but because it’s not actually broken when he was standing there right then, American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it. The coverage isn’t working for what I actually need.

I called in a service request and AHS sent out a tech for the faucet and the toilet. One of the parts got fixed but the guy who came out didn't have the other part. He said that I needed to get a new replacement on my sprayer head and he called me saying he hasn’t given up on me. He said that he was still looking for the part. But it’s been about three weeks now. So, we haven’t closed out the ticket and I'm still waiting on my order to be completed.

Earlier this week, I called American Home Shield again and spoke to another lady. She got on the phone, called the company that's supposed to be fixing the faucet, and left a message. But I have yet to hear back from anybody. Other than that, American Home Shield’s been great with me. Anytime I needed service to be done, it was taken care of within three days. In fact, I also called them recently for the heating element of my dryer and that got done right away. They put things back really quickly except the faucet.

My toilet wasn’t working and it wouldn’t flush but Drain Go of Alabama got it all fixed. It was easy filing a claim with American Home Shield although it was a little hard to understand the person that I was speaking with. There was a language barrier and we really weren’t communicating well. But Drain Go came out the next day and the technician was very grateful, respectful, professional, friendly and helpful. It was such a pleasant change. The last person who came from Drain Go was rude and awful. His name was Shaun but from what I understand, he's gone.

But American Home Shield dropping refrigerators was a bad thing because part of having this warranty was the refrigerator then the next thing I knew, they didn't have it anymore and I can't get my refrigerator fixed. Back in the flooding, there was a water leak from the refrigerator and a contractor came out and replaced the line. But when the icemaker started working, the refrigerator was leaking again. They said something underneath it was full and that it was probably inside the bottom of the refrigerator but I couldn't get it fixed because it was no longer covered.

There was an issue with my AC's thermostat. I submitted a claim with AHS and it was pretty easy. But the biggest thing was finding someone that could speak English. I talked to two different people and the first time around, they couldn't understand me. Then the second time around, I couldn't understand them. But the next morning, Air Link Mechanical called me at 7 o'clock and they were out. They got the AC fixed that day and they were perfect. If I have a problem, they'll be the ones I recommend. I have AHS for one year now and I would ask them to ensure that when consumers call in, they should have options for English or Spanish. My last experience got me a little aggravated. They asked me three times where my address was and if I had my account number. But other than that, I was completely satisfied with their service.

I've had a couple of calls ‘cause I have two accounts with American Home Shield. I have a house and a condo. I had to do some work in my condo and they had to put in Freon. The deal with the Freon is not very good because American Home Shield only paid $10 a pound, and they charged me $55 or $45. That was a little disconcerting to me because I know this other home warranty that do cover Freon. But besides that, I've been pretty happy. I've had American Home Shield for a few years and our most recent claim was my dryer. It was self-inflicted because I had a key in a pocket and it came out in the dryer. It was in the back of the tumbler making the noise. The contractor wasn't there very long. They found the key pretty quickly, gave me the key which I call the $75 key, and put the dryer back together.

I've been with American Home Shield for about two years and submitting claims with them is easy. I had one instance where it took a while for them to respond, but otherwise, it’s been easy. As for the contractors, some are better than others. I had one experience that was particularly bad. It was hard to tell if the guy was telling the truth or not, and he told us some different information than other providers have told us. So, it seemed like dishonesty was a big issue with one of the providers. I told American Home Shield about it and they handled it well. They got us a different company to help us.

We’ve had two costly things that we’ve had to fix, neither which have been covered by the warranty due to the caveats that they have in their plans. One was the sump pump, and they wouldn’t replace it because the air conditioner also drains into where the sump pump works. With my home design, there’s nowhere else for that to drain. So, you never know what kind of small-print caveat you’re gonna run into that’s gonna make them not pay. So, it seems that a lot of major things are exceptions based on caveats that are in the plans. So far, I’ve been unhappy with that. Other than that, we recently had HRS Heating and Cooling come out for a preventative maintenance. They've been out twice now and they had done a good job both times.

I've made claims with American Home Shield over the years and they've been very responsive, and all I have to do is pay the $100 fee and everything's taken care of. We recently wanted the HVAC inspected and tuned up for summer, and the tech from Joe Cool's came out and did that. He asked what I needed and I told him, and then I showed him the attic and helped open the attic door, and he went up and did his thing. When he came back down, he had a review of the systems and what he had tuned up and tightened, and he gave me a receipt. Everything is functioning well now.

But for this issue, I had to file a claim online like I normally do. Then they sent out the A/C Doc's men and we loved them. They worked really good with us and they were pretty timely. Then, the tech ordered the wrong part, so he had to go get a new one but once he had the right part, the work didn’t take long at all. The refrigerator seems to be working fine now.

Stay 1,000 miles away from American Home Shield. I had two policies with them, one on my house and one on a rental I had, and I cancelled both last month. I had more problems with them and the people they send out than I’ve ever had in ages. The people that work there answer the phone, “Welcome to American Home Shield,” and that’s all they know. I kept asking for a supervisor but I never got one.

My heater went out and I don’t know why I had to have two separate calls for a unit that works together. It's the heater and air conditioning and they put in the new heater but they didn’t put in the air conditioning. American Home Shield sent somebody else out to put in the air conditioning. Then neither one of the units worked. They also charged me way too much money. It cost me $2,000 in charges that they didn’t cover on the heater and over $1,000 on the air. I’ve just had problems all over the place. I didn’t need an electrician but they sent one out. It was horrible.

    Original Review: May 26, 2019

2019 5/22, Wednesday afternoon, an online claim was made to fix the heat pump a/c unit. A text and email with the HVAC business name and telephone number were sent stating I would be contacted within 24 hours. 5/23, I waited 24 hours, was not contacted by the contractor, and called the HVAC "business" and left a message on the voicemail. 5/24, The contractor still did not call me back. I contacted American Home Shield (AHS), put on hold, operator called the contractor, got a voicemail, and sent the contractor an email. I never heard from the contractor and was urged to wait to hear from the contractor until Saturday morning, and call AHS when I didn't hear back from the contractor. I never heard back from the contractor.

5/25, AHS was contacted and I asked for a different HVAC company. AHS told me an email would be sent with the updated information and I would be called by the contractor to set up an appointment. I never received an email or a telephone call from AHS, and the new contractor never contacted me. 5/26, AHS was contacted and told me were unable to find a contractor due to it being Sunday. I'm guessing AHS will be unable to find a contractor on a federal holiday. I asked for a new contractor on Saturday, was told I'd receive an email with information, which was never sent. (AHS verifies your address, telephone number, and email address each time you call.) AHS ASKED ME TO FIND MY OWN CONTRACTOR, PAY FOR THE SERVICE, AND THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME. Is this a joke or a scam?

I had called in for a water heater being busted (leaking and no hot water) and they didn’t have anyone to service it for 4 days. Given the urgency of the matter, post discussion with a customer service associate, I got my own contractor to fix the issue and AHS suggested submitting a review for reimbursement. It’s been 6 weeks with several follow up calls leading to nothing. The customer service personnel are clueless and if asked to speak with a supervisor, they suggest someone will call back with no call back. I am canceling my service and hoping others don’t sign up for this.

Update 05/30/2019: An AHS representative reached out but the issue is not resolved primarily because of the reasons listed below: - Their customer service associate has no sense of assessing the emergency of an issue, and expect me, the consumer of their services to "chat" with their associate so that there is a hard transcript as proof for communicating the urgency of the issue. Clearly, not willing to improve their process or lack of proper communication or even escalate to a supervisor. - They have no way of addressing emergency repairs since they quote the contract where it can take at least 24hours (weekdays only) to get someone to service the required appliance.

My faucet was leaking down into my basement. American Home Shield sent out Dave & Sons Plumbing for my service request and they came last week. They were on time, quick and professional. Since their work, my faucet has been fine and I haven’t had any issues. I’m satisfied with this company that came out but I'm not satisfied with American Home Shield.

When I have a claim, I usually call and it's all automated. You get a recording saying that if you have a claim, you have to verify who you are or your contract number. You are then asked what is broken in your house. I called American Home Shield on several occasions because I had a previous claim and another company came out. The issue with this company was getting them out there. They kept saying they were coming but kept not showing. But once they finally got there, they did some good work.

Regarding those complaints of trying to get the technicians out there after no call no show, a supervisor promised that my money would be refunded for that particular job. When I had another job come up, I did not want to have to pay because American Home Shield never reimbursed me after I called on two different occasions. American Home Shield needs to do a lot of work on their customer service part. I work but I was spending hour over hour on the phone with customer service. I was promised callbacks but never got them. That was very annoying. In the end, they worked it out so when technicians came out for my last claim, the credit that was supposedly mailed to me was credited to this particular job.

There was a leak coming from one of the pipes that’s connected to our refrigerator and it had been leaking that it has caused mold on the walls, my things and one of the cabinets. I called and spoke with a representative at American Home Shield to submit a claim and it was cool. The first time I called, the rep said that I would need to put a $500 payment to go through but I felt that the payment should have already gone in. The following day, I received the email saying that the payment had been received and it was easier once they received the payment.

The contractor they sent was great too. They pinpointed the problem, were very easy to talk to and were knowledgeable. The guy who came out did what he said he was gonna do. But the home inspector didn’t do a good job so we want them to come back out. So the technician just stopped the leak temporarily and he's supposed to come back out to finish up. Once the home inspector comes back out on Friday, we’re gonna probably call the guy.

I had one contractor and he was great. I had water stopping the AC from running 'cause it was too filled up so I had an automatic cut-off, and he fixed it. The only problem I have was it's kind of misleading in a sense that it says it has customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That seems like it means that when I call for something, I should get customer service from whoever is coming to help me out, not customer service from American Home Shield. I had no AC and it was hot. I had seven people in my house 'cause I had some guests. They said on the email, "You'll get a call back from the company that's gonna come out between 24 and 48 hours." A call back in 48 hours didn't make sense to me. I thought customer service is 24 hours a day. That means that they answered within 24 hours a day, but it was misleading when you read.

When you read the American Home Shield thing, it should say customer service from American Home Shield, not from whoever's gonna service me for whatever services that I need. I could have called an AC guy locally and he would have been there right away. I'm gonna call and tell it's an emergency versus I'm gonna get a call from the company 24 to 48 hours. That would be two days and it was a 3-day weekend. The way they word it on the website and on the contract needs to be clear.

American Home Shield, over the last three to four years, has gotten a lot better and smoother with their claims process as far paying the deductible and sending out people to do the work. I typically do it online, and the only time I’d call it in is if I have a multiple one, but they have to do it for you ‘cause you might have two items that can go up on one vendor so you only have to pay one fee. They have more vendors available now than what they used to have. The vendors come quick, they do their job and go. Air conditioner requests take a little bit longer normally though.

I had an air conditioner issue last year where they wouldn’t pay for the air conditioner to replace. Now, they have a new policy out where they only pay $10 per gallon of Freon for air conditioners being repaired. Two days ago before the policy came out, I went out of pocket ‘cause the vendor was taking so long to come out, and I wanted to get the air conditioner fixed for our tenant. I had to pay $175 a gallon for Freon within that timeframe. I would like to see more of that covered because in the past, they would pay for the Freon but they wouldn’t pay for the haul away, which I understood. But I had to pay $300 and they would have reimbursed me $30. Still, for the most part, I enjoy American Home Shield.

We just closed on the house in January and there were already a couple of concerns about three of the appliances. I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and have a look at these issues. It started off okay. The reps were good. They set up a work order and I have no concerns with how AHS handled everything. They set up some service with Sears Home Service and that aspect of it was a total disaster. Sears was completely impossible to work with. The people just did not understand what I needed. I had to call them every week to try to get rescheduled 'cause they would not schedule more than a week out, and I wasn't gonna be in the house for about two months. I don't live in that house. It's a second home. So, I was trying to get things set up for a time that I was actually gonna be out there.

Ultimately, Sears unilaterally cancelled the appointment, so I had no appointment. It was not an American Home Shield problem, other than selecting that vendor. I give American Home Shield some credit. They finally found a vendor that was responsive and we got the work done. The vendor that was chosen, which is a small business in the Portland, Oregon area, was exceptionally good at what they do. I would use them again and will always request them.

It was a little cumbersome that I had to wait until American Home Shield called somebody up or called me back or emailed me with the reassignment of the vendor. That did take a lot of my time. I was probably hours on the phone just trying to get service set up. The other thing that's cumbersome is I'm going through American Home Shield and I'm not talking to people necessarily who are scheduling this that are in the Unites States or fluent in English so it's a little bit of a challenge. Other than that, it really worked out fine and I'm happy with the outcome.

The ice machine is not working and I submitted a claim online. The American Home Shield site was easy to navigate. But there is no customer service. The design of their customer service is to deflect the concern of the consumer, not to address it. In the four attempts to reach a management person at American Home Shield to elevate the concern of the lack of response from my initial provider, I was just put on hold and tried to outlast my patience. I was never able to speak to a management person.

My claim is ongoing. The first company who was there four times could never do anything. The second company came and then told us they didn’t work on that kind of equipment, which would have saved us all the time. And as of right now, there’s someone at my home from company three for their follow-up visit, which hopefully resolves the problem.

I’m very disappointed with American Home Shield. I don’t know if they do any research on who agrees to represent them but obviously, there is a disconnect somewhere. I did have an excellent experience with the Pop-A-Lock company that represented them. But my concern has just been over the one thing I’ve tried to fix. And their lack of concern for the consumer who’s paying them for their service is pretty bad. I would not enter into another contract with AHS when this contract is over.

My refrigerator was not working. I submitted a claim over the phone with AHS and it was challenging. Talking with the rep I got aggravated me and I had to speak with someone else. It also took so long to get the part and I was not getting any answers from the company that I was assigned to. The people at AHS didn’t seem to be able to track things down and it was very frustrating. I had to end up demanding to speak with a supervisor then I got some action and it was almost 30 days before the repair was completed. It was quite a long time which was ridiculous.

Then, when the young man came out to fix the refrigerator, he was not a pleasant individual. And I just did not want him back in my home again. Once he did the unit, he didn’t explain to me how my refrigerator was gonna be reacting differently as far as setting the temperatures and things, because it was a whole, new computer unit that was put in there. So, I had to end up calling him back and I felt so foolish when he was explaining things to me. I told him that he should’ve explained that to me in the beginning and I would not have called him back.

I had to call him the third time because there was a leak on the floor. We both noticed a white spot when he pulled out the refrigerator, but he was the mechanic and he didn’t say a word about it. So, I had to put in another claim for the refrigerator and AHS finally sent a Sears representative out. He knew what was wrong right away and he said that the drain was clogged. It took him 10 minutes and he was outta here. He was a very pleasant young man and the refrigerator works like a dream since the repair. It's performing like it's brand new and it's fantastic.

So, the refrigerator was a horror story but in the past, whenever I called AHS, it was a pleasant and grateful experience. The first tech who came out for my refrigerator was probably an excellent mechanic but he was just not a people person. But some of AHS' representatives on the phone are impossible. I had to stop them a couple of times and tell them that I am not an idiot, I've got two masters, and they should not talk to me in that manner. I also didn't repeating everything that I said. I told them I just needed service and I needed to know when it was coming. Still, I'm very pleased with Home Shield and I would recommend the company to anybody. In fact, I have done to a couple of my neighbors. We’re senior citizens and we’re old. We’re on a fixed income and insurance is a must.

I prefer to use online and it would be a lot easier but I can’t do it. There’s no notes or anything like that where I can type something supplemental like additional information. If I could, I would just say, “Please request the previous plumbing company to come out.” I have to actually make the phone call. The one complaint I have is the hold times when I call for a service call is insane. It’s typically in excess of 20 to 30 minutes.

Language barrier has been awful as well. I got the bat line that now gives me the line for a person from the United States to take the calls. Other than that, I typically get somebody who’s not even stationed in the United States and translation and just communication is brutal. That’s the complaint I had at the very beginning until I kinda learned. Aside from that, follow-up’s been good with the contractor and I haven’t had any other complaints. Recently, our salt cell light in our pool was on and we wanted to have it checked out ‘cause it seldom goes on. AHS sent Knock Out Pools to help us out.

I moved here from Missouri last year in November and I started with American Home Shield around January this year. I didn’t expect to have a problem with the air conditioner. It’s only three years old and it was brand-new when I bought this home. It was extremely easy submitting the claim and AHS got on it. They got me a company, and I got a hold of that company but they said they wouldn’t be here for five days. They were gonna try to squeeze me on Monday, which was five days away and they weren’t sure if they could do that. So, I called AHS back and I told them that I live in Memphis. It was 94 degrees with humidity. The rep got a hold of another company and they were here the next day by noon. So, I was very pleased.

This was my first experience with them and it was an excellent one. It was a glitch the young fella found extremely quickly and resolved for me. The nice young men were super courteous and in a rush to get me up and going, and they did it. In very few minutes, they had me up and running. It was a great experience and I appreciate it. It makes the money you spend on insurance worth it. Sometimes, they don’t pan out like people would’ve hoped they will. This time, I was extremely pleased and glad that I spent that money up till now.

I had notification within just couple of hours that the contractor would be here about five hours later that same day. I made the appointment early in the morning and the guy was here that same afternoon to diagnose it. Less than a week later, he was here with the part to repair it.

The contractor came in, checked everything out, and explained that he had to order a new ice maker unit or parts for the ice maker. It would take one week and he had to get preapproval for everything. He would contact me when it was ready and come back out. It was on Saturday that he came in and finished it already. Now, I have ice again. It was very good and a positive experience. I enjoyed everything considering I went for a week without ice. It wasn't as hateful as I thought it would be. We’ve been with American Home Shield for a couple years now and so far we're happy with them. When we call for service, we’ve always gotten it. Recently my AC was leaking Freon and it wasn’t cooling, and they had to order a new coil for it. I made the claim over the phone and they were very nice. They would’ve gotten here sooner if they could have, but apparently the part was not easy to find. We just sat in front of a fan until they got the part and got it installed.

We had a request and American Home Shield responded to it by seeking out a vendor to help us fix the problem. The first vendor they recommended was unable to get to our home in less than a week, so we contacted back American Home Shield. They wanted us to continue to use the same vendor and it took quite a while for us to get American Home Shield to understand that it was a plumbing issue that needed to be addressed within a shorter period of time.

Also, the lady who was helping us was a little difficult to understand, but she's very kind and she contacted back that original vendor three to four times before they agreed to allow American Home Shield to seek out an additional vendor. The request took us a lot longer than we had hoped, but AHS got a different vendor and the company that came out was quick. They were respectful and they handled the repair fine. I wish that that transition would've been smoother and quicker, but overall, the problem was resolved.

Sometimes it's hard to get a person in American Home Shield. They should have more people on the phone for clients to be able to talk to a person. I filed a claim because there was water leaking under the sink and the disposal wouldn't work, and Westside Plumbing came out in a couple days. I was satisfied with that timeframe. And they were very good. I checked their work then when there was still something leaking, they got another clamp and fixed the problem so there would be no more leaking after they replaced the disposal.

We had a fairly slow leak in the sink and the upstairs bathroom and it was BestWay Mechanical Inc. that came out. The gentleman solved that problem very quickly and easily and did a great job. Things are working perfectly now. I also asked him about two other issues that he helped think through. We had a smell that we thought might be associated with improper venting in our home and he helped talked through what could be possible with that. But he didn’t really take any action, which was understandable.

We also had some sinks where when we turn on the water cold, they would be running cold then a little bit warm and then kinda go back and forth. He mentioned a theory then we went and looked at the hot water heater. It turned out that it was connected improperly. He mentioned that the warranty would probably not cover that so he gave me an estimate for what he thought his company would probably charge for that. He was great. He was professional, courteous, really helpful and prompt.

I submitted this claim to American Home Shield online which was really easy but it felt a little limited in that I was only able to choose from a fairly narrow range of issues related to the plumbing. Then even though I had questions about two issues, possibly three, I was only able to select one. So when the guy got here, I felt like I was kind of ambushing him a little bit. If there had been a way to select more issues, that would have been helpful. But aside from that, it was fine.

They were saying things which wasn’t applicable to the air conditioning. They could probably understand me but I couldn’t understand them. It sounded like they were reading from a script but the more they do it, the better off they’ll be. So, it was okay. The contractor came out a couple of days later and his work was the highest quality. I was impressed with his professionalism. He knew what he was talking about, what he was doing and he was very courteous. Since then, the air conditioning has been good.

But then I stayed on hold forever. Also, it took me two weeks to get somebody on the phone. I'm also not used to paying my deductible before work is done and I didn't like that. Thereafter, I didn't really like the first contractor I got. I had to have the claim resubmitted because he didn’t fix the problem. Still, the second rep who came out identified the problem and fixed it right away.

I wasn't too happy with Sears as a contractor but recently, I had a bad hot water tank and the contractor, Rick, was amazing. I would rather submit the claim nice and simple online but we’ve done it over the phone for the techs to come back out if the issue wasn’t working. That was with the fridge that kept on going out. The guy couldn’t fix it but it took a long time before they finally said that they would replace it. It was driving us crazy. Finally, they did and it helped out a lot.

AHS sent a contractor within two days to fix our air conditioner. They worked with us with the schedule. The contractors smelled like cigarettes, but other than that, it was fine. They had a drawing and they depicted everything. And then they have to wait and get it approved by AHS. But they were over a $1,000 higher than other people that we've found. So, we're not gonna go with the company sent by AHS for now.

AHS is now trying to approve the cash-out option -- that they would pay it by cash and we would use whatever repair service we wanted to. I don't feel like there's much value to AHS for what you pay monthly. We might as well just put the money in an account, and then we could pay for the repair ourselves. But they were fine as far as customer service goes.

My air conditioner was not working and I used the online to submit a claim with American Home Shield. It was very easy than through the phone. They then sent me a text that was letting me know that Air Smith would contact within 24 hours, which they did. Air Smith also let me know when they were gonna be able to come and see me. I was being told every time an update came.

I bought my house about a year and a half ago and the prior owner did not do a lot of maintenance on the appliances. The first time the guy came out, he said that it would be a good idea to clean the AC. Though It was working fine, it could break. And I’m gonna get somebody to professionally clean my AC 'cause the last thing I need is for stuff to break down. He also gave me a little walkthrough on how things work. Then there was a different gentleman that had to come back because my AC was not working again. Both of the gentlemen I spoke to were very friendly and professional and they answered all my questions. Now, my AC is working.

Every time I've had to use American Home Shield, they've been very quick about everything. And the guys they sent out explain everything to me. Everything was pretty much black and white. There was no hidden anything. So, it was all pretty good. And I definitely recommend them to everyone. Actually, my friend just bought a house and the first thing I said was to get American Home Shield because they had been great to me ever since I had them. There were no headaches and when I had questions, I immediately got answers. They do a great job in getting things done.

When I first put the call in, there was someone else that was supposed to come. I called a day or two later and found out that the company wasn’t gonna be able to get here for two weeks. So, American Home Shield found Island Breeze who showed up on a Friday. The tech came in while I was out here, ran his test, found the problem, fixed it and he was gone. Another time, the microwave here was shot so AHS replaced it and they just delivered the replacement this morning. Everything’s ended up well as far as their end. They’ve always treated me fine whenever I've needed them.

AHS arrived to review our problem on our AC. Informed us the problem was not covered under warranty. I believe it was a bad thermostat, and the a coil was clogged real bad but was still functioning. So we paid $100 for the serviceman and had to have a friend clean the a coil and I replaced the thermostat. When we signed up with AHS we informed them that we had 2 structures. The main home and a garage with an apartment on top. We listed the 2 AC systems as part of the warranty service. The sales person never informed us that we needed to pay 2 premiums for having 2 Structures.

Next problem, blower motor went out in the AC in our garage apartment, we contacted AHS and set up a time for the technician to come look. My wife was very specific about the AC being upstairs in the garage apartment because we didn’t want to needlessly pay the $100 fee again! The phone operator assured us we were covered, and set the appointment. The serviceman arrived, I showed him where the unit was, he immediately questioned coverage and began to dial the office. I let him know it was covered. He handed the phone to me where upon the phone operator informed me we weren’t covered because it was a separate structure. The separate structure we informed them of when we purchased the warranty.

The perceived deception angered me and I immediately canceled our coverage on the spot. I nearly got into a confrontation with the serviceman, of which I apologize if he reads this, but my anger was not directed towards him, it was towards the office where the deception occurred. I could tell he wasn’t in a great mood to begin with so I caught myself before it got any uglier, shut my mouth and had my wife call to question why they were denying coverage again, when we informed them of the situation and the 2 structures from the get-go, and before they arrived this time. They said they would look into it and get back within 24 hours, it has been 25 hours now and no response. Still waiting.

Bottom line up front: Use a different company than AHS. AC went out on Saturday morning and I submitted a work order through AHS' website. A vendor was assigned and so I called that vendor to schedule an appointment because it was hot and my family needed AC. The vendor told me that due to a contractual agreement with AHS, they could not perform any servicing until Monday. So we sweated out the weekend with fans in all rooms.

Technician came on Monday and got the AC running again but did not fix the underlying issue as the AC broke again on the following Friday (4 days later). Since the technician warrantied their service call/work for 60 days, I called them directly. They said that the work order had already closed out with AHS and that I needed to contact them to initiate a work recall but that they could not get to it until Tuesday since it is a holiday weekend and that they contractually could not accomplish anything for AHS' customers until a normal business day. However, AHS does, in fact, have contracts with vendors that are able to work on the weekends but I was not initially set up with one even though I had made the request on a weekend. Really dumb management flaw.

Anyway, the temps are forecast to get into the mid 90s here so I need to get this situation resolved amicably. I contacted AHS and asked them to fix this situation with either: 1) change vendor to one who is contractually allowed to work on the weekend (because it is their friggin' fault in the first place for setting me up with a poor vendor who could not properly diagnose the issue and complete the work satisfactorily AND who could not contractually work on weekends!) or 2) waive the agreement with current vendor to allow them to be paid for work accomplished on the weekend. Each time I attempted to elevate this to a supervisor, I was disconnected (hung up on as 3 times is no coincidence) with no attempts to call me back. I even asked during the second and third call to have them call me back if we were disconnected. This did not happen.

I decided to write this review before attempting the 4th call. Wish me luck! If issue is not resolved, I will be cancelling my policy and will find any mention of AHS online and write additional reviews plus anyone within my influence will be given advice to steer clear of this company who has exhibited such a shameful way of doing business. For shame AHS! For shame.

He did his job so quickly and I cannot him thank enough. I was thrilled. It was more than my expectation. I didn’t expect this kind of service. I was thinking somebody was gonna call me in two days and instead someone called me in a few hours and showed up in a few minutes. That’s awesome. I didn’t believe that will happen because there are a lot of complaints but my experience was not same. My experience is ecstatic. I was so happy. The repair gave me peace of mind. When you’re on 90 degrees temperature and without AC, it’s miserable. Now, we have an AC which is perfectly working, and I thank American Home Shield.

I've had American Home Shield for about five years and I like to do things on the phone rather than online. But the difficult thing is sometimes getting through and the lines can be busy for extended periods of time, but essentially I have always gotten through. And then 80% of the companies that I’ve had had been pretty good. I’ve had a couple where they were trying to create problems that didn’t exist and charged high prices to fix them.

One company created a fake root problem and an additional $800 charge when they came about a garbage disposal. The person was so rude that I called back American Home Shield and they sent me another plumbing company for a second opinion, and it turned out to be a garbage disposal and nothing else. The guy went to his truck, got out a garbage disposal, changed it, the whole thing was over in half an hour. I have reported the previous company and I’ve asked American Home Shield that I don’t wanna be referred to them again. I do get referred to them periodically, and it bothers me that I cannot refuse that company.

I'd recommend American Home Shield. But when their individual companies come out, you need to be cautious about what the problem is and what they tell you. For example, when the guy came to fix the sink and the job was over, he pointed at something, which I’m not even sure really existed because I never heard about it before. I’ve lived here a long time and I’ve had the same problems before. He told me that there was a funny kind of switch under my sink and he had to get to that pipe, and he would have to charge me $400 extra. But since it was the first time he came out, he would just do it the regular way. That put up a big red flag for me. The company wanted to do these little non-existing root problems. It started out at $800, then they dropped it to $400 when I refused it. The person who was here would not put the estimate in writing. He went through a tantrum. So, I don’t wanna go through anything like that again.

The provider that I'm getting for today is my preferred provider. I was very happy to hear that they came up for this particular job. They’ve always been good and honest. I’ve asked for them before but it seems that American Home Shield rotates their companies. The other backup companies that they’ve sent me were okay, but not as good as the one I’m getting today. But all in all, American Home Shield is a good company. I’m not interested in changing. I haven’t heard anything better about any other companies, and I’m sticking with them.

He told me he was the only technician they had and I told them I didn't wanna deal with him. I gotta reschedule and have American Home Shield use another vendor. I’m still able to use the oven, but I need to get it fixed. I haven’t had a chance to call them back, nor have they called me. As for Tap’s Lock and Keys, everything went well with that claim.

The company that came out and fixed it was very responsive and very good. Their people were very knowledgeable, nice and easy to work with. We were very happy with them. We have been with AHS for four years but my daughter has had incidents that were handled horribly and she’s probably going to cancel her policy with AHS as a result of it. Had I not known about my daughter’s experiences, I would recommend them, but knowing what she’s gone through twice now, I can’t recommend them at all. I was lucky but I’m very much afraid that if something of significance happens, there are gonna be problems.

I contacted American Home Shield for an air conditioning unit tune-up. The technicians who came were very polite and professional. I have two units and one of them also started acting up pretty much as I made the appointment. The guy ended up doing two things at the same time. With American Home Shield, you need to put in another order in order to do two jobs. The thing with this warranty is the monthly cost. There’s the premium and on top of that, each time you call, you pay the contractor $75 for the visit.

We’ve had issues off and on with the air conditioner. We have a two-story house and we have two units. In the upstairs, it was fine for me because I get cold. But my daughter and son-in-law have a baby, and he sleeps really hot. So, they would try to drop the temperature down, and it wouldn’t get to that point. American Home Shield sent somebody who checked it one time, and it was dripping. There’s a pipe that goes off the side of the house, and it was dripping all the time. They’ve come to fix that before, too. This guy came and emptied whatever pan it is that collects the drippings, and he cleaned around some coils. He left and and said, “Okay. I did this but I need another approval from American Home Shield. This needs a deeper cleaning. The coils, and whatever, and whatnot, needs a deeper cleaning. But I can’t do it without the prior approval.” They got the approval and it was fine. He came back and did that deep cleaning.

That wasn’t enough though. He ended up having to come back. AHS gave the approval immediately. They just sent him back because he had to do a pressure check, and it ended up needing more refrigerant. And so, we ended up paying for two things of that. AHS covers $10 worth of that and then, we paid the rest of it. But he finally got it, and the air conditioner's finally doing what it’s supposed to do. And there’s no drips, and everything’s working great.

Submitting claims with AHS is the simplest process ever. I just go online and click on a couple of buttons. The only thing is when they have to get approval for something, they’re gonna do more. I would just think that it could be a quick phone call and not days of getting the approval. Other than that, one of AHS's contractors, Rutan, has been great. We’ve had others as well, and we’ve had several air conditioning things in the years that we’ve lived here but Rutan stands out. Their guy was persistent enough to insist that these things needed to be done, and he got it fixed. We’re moving and closing on this house in a couple of weeks, and my intent is to keep American Home Shield. Sometimes, it’s like we spend this money on the service fee, but if it’s something big, to me, it’s worth it.

With Old Republic, I had to make several calls and they had to change contractors to get somebody out here after three days. In comparison, we’ve used American Home Shield twice and they were very good about both times. When a fan blower motor went out on the AC, I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online, as I normally do, and they responded immediately. Doing it online is very easy even though I’m not really of the generation that’s in to all this technology stuff. I’m 70 and I muddle around on my computer. But American Home Shield had a guy out here that fixed the AC within two hours and Edgar was fantastic. He knew what he was doing and he didn't waste any time. He told me exactly what we needed to have done and then he fixed it. It took him 45 minutes to do the job and go on to the next one.

I've been very pleased with American Home Shield. They've helped me with different things with the house. This time, I had a water heater claim through Sundance. I didn’t have any hot water and I had to wait a week before I could get some. I was hoping it would be a little sooner but they came when they had their first opening and the gentleman did a fantastic job on it. He checked this and that, and cleaned up everything. I was very impressed. This was an old water heater and when I purchased this home, I had lukewarm water to have a shower. I thought that was just the way they had set the thing. But it kept getting cooler and cooler then one day, I got in there and it was just ice-cold. This thing had been going out for some time and I didn’t even know it. So I did purchase a new heater.

The contractor said that the units were out and he could put those in but he said “however” and he talked about how sometimes when you redo those and they’ve gone off for a period of time, you end up with having rust at the bottom of your tank and then you end up having rust when you have your shower. As we went through all of the things, I thought about it and I told him to make sure to put the date on there so that I have it. It was very nice. The gentleman was extremely informative and he took a lot of time to help me with it. I really appreciated it. He was a wonderful man.

Because by the time I look at what I’m paying plus the $100 deductible for a call, it adds up very quickly. Even so, recently we had a breakdown in our air conditioning system and we phoned in a claim to AHS. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out, had a look at the unit, figured out what the problem was and then repaired it. He had to change the capacitor on it and the motor fan but then the unit has been working okay since.

My air conditioner was leaking and it needed to be fixed. But when I went to submit the claim for that, my experience was horrible. First of all, I wasn’t aware that American Home Shield has changed such that you have to pay them before and then I had an issue with that. They’ve also moved the customer service to the Philippines. You can hardly understand them and they don’t understand you. I got hung up on four times. American Home Shield should let people know that they've changed the customer service to the Philippines or if you can’t understand them and you asked for someone in the United States, they should give you to someone in the United States so you can get your situation taken care of.

The first technician who came out from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was horrible. I had to get a second one sent out from the same company and he was perfect. He was more professional. But the first one was rude. When I asked him if he would come in and look at the leak in my bathroom, he said no because he was not leaving his tools outside. Then he didn’t wanna come upstairs and look at what was going on. When I asked if he would clean all of it, he said I could do what I wanted to do, that it would probably dry and that they were tired. I asked how long he thought it was gonna be and he said, "Well, if I could go ahead and get started.” Then when he said he was done, he asked if I wanted him to check the Freon and I said, "Yes, please."

But I let him know that the leak in the bathroom is not where the pan is and that he had to change the pan where the leak is because this had happened before. The person who did it before let me know and it’s my house. I’ve lived in the house for over 15 years and I know where my air conditioner is located in my house. I was trying to tell him that. But he was mean. When he came in to look then he said that that’s where the pan is. Then he went to my hallway from out of my bathroom in another area of the house. He was trying to get his bearings and he turned around in a circle but he couldn't figure out. He said, “Well, you’re not gonna believe me.” I was trying to show him where it had leaked before where the air conditioner is but he just walked out. I was so shocked because I had never had that type of service before.

So I went in the garage where he was and I asked if he was upset. He kept saying he wouldn't talk to me anymore. I asked if he was gonna at least check the Freon. But he continued saying he wasn't going to talk anymore and then he left. I’ll probably be finding me another service company because I’m paying American Home Shield too much a month then I have to pay upfront and it's ridiculous the way I was treated through the whole process.

In addition have to take off work and this could jeopardize my job. The representatives are out of the country and have no clue what is going on. Spoke to supervisor (Gin) who sounded like the representative who I spoke to first. (Interesting) I know all about doing that. Have go almost 5 days without food etc and will have to eat out. Also I will have to take off from Tuesday and probably take off another day or two jeopardizing my job. Just a way for the company to prolong so customer won’t wait and they won’t AHS pay for what is needed. I could understand if it was a washer / dryer but a refrigerator, furnace or AC is totally different. I will probably have to wait another week or two. Disappointed.

In July of last year I submitted a request to have our A/C unit looked at. I was told that the only issue was that was that the refrigerant needed replaced. This is not covered under the plan so the charge was $500. The system worked for the rest of the summer. One week ago we had the same issue. A different service company was sent and I was told that the refrigerant needed replaced again (another $500), because of a leak.

After reviewing the original invoice there was no other description of any kind of troubleshooting. I called customer service and was told that the original company did not enter any diagnostic information and therefore they can't determine what was done. I was told that "I" would need to contact the original company and verify that no other work was done, (the warranty was valid for 30 days). So here I sit with no air being told that I will have to pay for refrigerant again and to submit my old invoice and I "may" get reimbursed. I don't know how to complete that process as there isn't a place on the website to do so.

Do not waste your money with American Home Shield. We have been without AC since Sunday 5/19 and have been given the run around constantly because they only have one HVAC contractor to service our area. We were told they wouldn’t be able to come until Friday 5/24 between 1-4, but because that was so long to wait they would try to locate another vendor. Waited a day to hear something and finally called in to find out they have no other vendors and now it will be next Tuesday at the earliest that their only vendor can get to us. We are having 90+ degree days and having to wait over a week after given the run around time after time again is ridiculous. Save your money and find a reputable company to deal with. Not to mention the ONLY HVAC company they deal with has one star ratings on all sites with multiple complaints of them causing water damage to people’s homes.

In summary, they’ve outsourced customer service to another country with “employees” who obviously aren’t held responsible for their actions because I was hung up on 3x’s in the past week after being on hold for more than 30 mins each call (two 15-min intervals on average). The vendors they contract w/ are given a per-customer budget to stay within, & if the vendor exceeds this average, AHS hounds them. How can a vendor be told to keep their repairs to an average of $250 per customer when there are such a wide spectrum of issues that could be wrong? If you look at your contract, there’s a max amount per item that AHS will cover. They do the cheapest fix until they hit that max amount or you get so frustrated w/ paying the items that aren’t covered that you give up & buy a new one.

We’ve had AHS for about 5 years now. They’ve never covered anything we’ve called on them for. So we pay $63/ mo. + $75 service call for companies that wait days before coming out, only to be told it’s not covered. Then we have to reach back in our pockets to cover it ourselves w/ a more reputable company. There’s always a loophole for AHS.

This recent issue w/ AC has been a true nightmare. AHS’ contracted vendor (Myers) came out to look at our 20-yr-old unit. Afterwards, I got a call from AHS stating they’d replace the coil, & we’d be responsible for more than $1,600 in repairs & bringing the ancient unit up to code. This includes $800 in a Freon type that the government is phasing out. After finally getting to an AHS supervisor, I asked why in the world we’d dump more than $3k into band aids for a 20-yr-old AC unit ($3k between AHS & our cost), & I was told they can only go by what the service tech writes on the report. Ok, I get that. So I call the service company (Myers) & am told they are directed to only write what is needed to make the item work, not “what makes the most sense.” They are not to take into consideration the age of the item.

I talked to the supervisor of Myers, & he literally told me even if my unit were 50 yrs old, he’d have to write down whatever was needed to make the unit run & pump out cold air. I asked in what situation would he write that it needs to be replaced, & he couldn’t answer the question. He said there’s usually an option to repair anything. I called AHS back to relay this, & they denied it. So, I asked AHS if I could get Myers on the phone for a conference call. They told me Myers was closed at that time (Saturday) but they would once Myers opened, if Myers agreed to it. Well, Myers was open but the supervisor wasn’t in. I called back on Monday, & the Myers supervisor gave the ok for a conference call, but when I called AHS back, they stated they couldn’t participate in a conference call on their recorded line, despite me arranging it. So now it’s a he-said, she-said matter.

I told AHS I felt that they are taking the cheapest option, not considering what’s best for the consumer, & had I trusted they had my interest at heart & not done research, I would have dumped $1,600 into this old unit only to dish out more in the near future once this old unit has another issue wrong & AHS has claimed to hit their max payout. I would have been in a bigger financial mess. The AHS supervisor agreed to cover the cost to get a 2nd opinion. The 2nd vendor wasn’t a crook like the 1st* but straight up told me & my husband AHS isn’t going to cover a replacement. (Myers* who offered me an $8k AC unit w/ a $1k “AHS discount”.... I priced 7 other well-known companies & not a single one was more than $6.8. Myers is a joke!)

During this mess, I called 6 companies outside of AHS to get quotes on new units. The 1st that came out, went into the attic & found our flue vent wasn’t even exiting our house, meaning carbon monoxide was sitting in the attic when our heater runs. He also found multiple ducts busted & therefore leaking tons of air, not making its way to the vents in the rooms. Because ducts are supposedly covered by AHS, I called them to get a quote on those repairs, & they made me pay an additional $75 service charge DESPITE Myers’ lack of checking this when they came out.

I called Myers to ask if their techs check duct work (not telling them why I was asking at 1st), & the lady said it depends on what’s wrong. I told her the air wasn’t feeling like it was cooling like it previously did (our initial complaint), & she said, yes they would look at the ducts. I then let her know why I asked & told her I shouldn’t have to pay the service fee since the techs didn’t look like they should have, & she said the service fee is AHS, not them. There are more little things, but I’ve typed a ton already. This has been WAY more hassle than it’s worth & caused me so much stress & missed time at work being on the phone for hours & fighting for what we are owed per contract terms. During it all, I’ve had co-workers share similar stories & other vendors tell me this is why they don’t do business w/ AHS. They don’t have the consumers’ interests at heart & are solely focused on the money.

I did a service request on last Wednesday 5/15/19 that my unit was not cooling my house, I received a text stating that RescueYouAir would be contacting with an appointment to come check out the unit. So Thursday the tech came out and found out that I need a compressor and that he would have to have the part ordered so by it being the weekend my part won’t be able til Monday or Tuesday. So today is Thursday a week later and I haven’t heard from AHS or RescueYourAir!!! So I called them to see what was the hold up. Come to find out they saying that the part is not covered and that I had to pay for the parts and the coolant over ($600). Why tell me that something is covered and it has been ordered and come to find out that they haven’t even ordered my part. Oh and not to mention my $75 service fee that they took out of my account for something that that was not completed.

Once in the three years we've had American Home Shield, our refrigerator went out and they sent somebody who repaired it. More recently, our washer was leaking on the floor, so I called American Home Shield and they set up the appointment with Fidelity. Their techs came over, looked at my washer and took several pictures. There were a couple of cracks and they said it was kinda worse off and that they were gonna recommend it to be replaced because it costs more to fix it.

Thereafter, we had a ticket number for American Home Shield so I ended up calling them the next day. They sent us the choices for replacement. They said we could either do X, Y, or Z, and they could replace with that unit. Alternatively, they would offer an amount of money if we wanted to go check out washers at Home Depot which was what we did. Overall, we've had a good experience with AHS.

We were buying our first house and found a really good Realtor who recommended America Home Shield. We trusted her and we were gonna do whatever she told us. I’m glad that we did. The warranty is worth it because I’m not a handy guy. I can’t fix anything. My wife is lucky if I could hang a painting. Having the warranty is a big deal for us. We give AHS a call when we have a claim and somebody is usually in contact with us relatively quickly. The process is usually pretty easy.

When there was a problem with our washing machine, AHS assigned us to Good Shepherd Appliance. Their technician wasn’t the first person to come and work on our washing machine. We had it checked a couple of times. When their technician finally got there, he seemed to really know his stuff. He said they could continue to try to fix the washing machine but he didn't think it would be worth it. In the end, he talked to American Home Shield and recommended that we get a replacement. That was what AHS offered us and that was what we did.

The contractors AHS sent out were great. But my wife told me that there was a gentleman that she said made her very uncomfortable among the people that came to drop off the appliance. She said that the way that he looked at her scared her. She was frightened to the point where she called me on the phone. She did not tell me what was going on and that she was frightened, but she wanted to have me there. I told her that that was the kind of thing she should let AHS know as she was uncomfortable to the point where she felt unsafe and wanted to call me. But she said to just let the matter go and forget about it. Other than that, it’s all pretty fair with AHS. We pay $50 something a month. It is a little bit expensive to have people come up $75 every time. But in the end, I like American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

I had an issue with the garage opener and about the next day or so, I called American Home Shield. One guy came out and he looked at the door and did something to it. But then, about the next day, the door was doing the same thing as it was doing before. Another guy called and they sent out another guy. He came out and he worked on the garage. It worked for a little while but then it started doing the same thing that it was doing at first. I called back and then they sent the same guy that got out the last time.

I told the guy what the door was doing and that it was doing the same thing. I asked him if it was possible that it was something in the garage opener itself. He said that he didn't know, but he would check it out. He looked at it and showed me what was wrong with it. He said that I could just replace it. He had the part on his truck, so I just let him replace it. I asked him if American Home Shield would pay for that and he said that AHS wouldn’t so, I paid him. I paid for the garage opener for a total of $389. But my husband called American Home Shield the same Wednesday evening and talked to the lady. He got our contract with American Home Shield and it said that they covered that. But I didn't know that, so I went ahead and paid for the garage door because I was tired of the garage not working and we had the car in the garage.

American Home Shield is a good company compared to the other warranty companies. I have three properties under them in Virginia. Whenever we have a problem, we call American Home Shield. Sometimes we do our claim online because I’m not available. In the last six months, we had one claim for plumbing in one house and an air conditioning claim for another house. We pay our part and the thing is being fixed. If I have some problem, I call AHS back.

With AHS, there were hard times and there were good times. Sometimes they denied a claim and they never listened to me. Sometimes I called them back, requested, and they listened to me. Sometimes they say something is covered or it's not covered. It depends on the situation, on the job, and on the person who came to do the service. This is common with technicians and it's in the technician words that they use. They can deny very easily. In suggesting a word, everything can be messed up or if they change one word, it’s done. We can do nothing because of the word they use.

One time I had a problem with the air conditioning. The technician said the condenser inside was bad and they could not fix it. I just got it from the market. After three months, it was bad again. I called AHS and another contractor came. They said it was the fault of the last people who did the work. They did it wrong. They did not fix or resolved the problem. I got back to AHS and told them that I had to pay $300 out of pocket. The technicians were at fault but I was blamed. The AHS guy was nice and he listened. He said I was right and he saw that it was their fault.

A technician who comes has an impact. AHS hires the technician but if a technician wants to take something, they have to get the approval from the American Home Shield. It's in how they present the case. They know how to get a claim denied and they know how to get it approved. For a job I had done in one house, AHS covered everything. For the same job done in another house, the company charged me $600. We can’t do anything because we are at their mercy. Whatever they say, they say. This is what it is because they don’t have fair criteria.

When technicians both have AC, one technician can say it has not been serviced and another technician can just concentrate on the problem and fix it. A technician could not want to fix the problem and say that the AC was not serviced last time and ask for payment when we get it serviced. You then lose your $100 but don’t get the AC fixed. Companies are dependent on the technician and technicians can do whatever they want. I have seen some lazy technicians. They just mess everything and then go home. But I have seen nice people too who come and they help you. They do everything. Only thing is they have to maneuver things. Other than that, everything is all right with AHS.

American Home Shield has been great. When I submit a claim, they text me to tell me the information on who is coming out. And then the contractor contacts me right after they did. So far, I’ve had no problems with the contractors. American Home Shield always got right back with me, and they always sent a contractor. I’ve never had to wait on a contractor. I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield. I’ve recommended them to several people I know. My only gripe is the deal with the air conditioner. Right now, Holder’s Heating and Air is doing it, but if I had a problem six months down the road, Holder’s might not be the ones that will come out.

The outside unit was kicking on and off, and it wouldn’t stay running. It wasn’t cooling. When the tech came out, he changed something, and it worked for about a week, and then it went right back to doing it again. So, he came back out. He changed something else, and had to order some kinda valve. He said the valve upstairs went bad somehow. It was just a chain reaction. When he put the valve on, it got to where it was blowing hot air instead of cold. So, he came out again and tried to temporary get it to cool down during the night when the sun goes down.

It just takes five minutes to put a claim in, and very easy to do. When I put in a claim at midnight, I got a call the next morning to make the appointment. I'm very happy.

The contractors were very professional. It is clear that they know that we're an AHS client. This is one of the reason why I continue to stay with AHS. I've dealt with similar type of folks before we had American Home Shield, and it was not at the same level of professionalism. When the AC unit wasn't kicking on, I booked a service online. I had a backed up washtub in the basement and I had a couple of handles on the sink that were looking like they were gonna stop working soon. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield on their website and they sent out C Mayes Plumbing and Heating. The guy showed up on time. He was here before the end of the given timeframe. Also, he was excellent and very confident. Whenever I ask a question, he goes, “Well, would you like me to show you?” So, that was nice. He was very accommodating, very professional, and he resolved my issues fast.

However, I have not always had great service from that contractor. I had a pipe that was beneath the tub that started leaking. I had already had other plumbing problems in the past. So, I had an access panel right at the base of the stairs, beneath where that plumbing was, that I decided if somebody ever needed to get up there again, I’m just gonna keep that an access panel instead of packing up the whole sealing. C Mayes came out and basically said they couldn't access the problem through that panel and that the entire linen closet would need to be taken apart so they could access it. I knew it wasn’t true and they wouldn’t back down on it. I told them it was a lot of carpentry work I would have to do after they finish and they said I would have needed to get all that stuff taken care of before they do the repair. I've notified AHS about it but they sort of just said, “Well, that’s what we have to do.”

I ended up paying the service fee to American Home Shield. Then, I paid another contractor to go through the access panel and get it done for me because it cost me less to pay them than it would have if I had paid just the service call to Mayes. That carpentry work exceeded the amount that I paid the contractor who just simply went through the access panel where the pipes were. The contractor came over and said that even if C Mayes doesn't wanna go through there, I still wouldn't have to take it apart. I could cut that piece out and put a piece of wood back up over it. That was an experience that I was very unhappy about. Other than that, as far as the little things, they come out, show up on time, and get it done. Their people are great and usually, I see the same people that come out.

Our dishwasher wasn’t working recently and the water wasn’t getting hot. I called which wasn’t too good because I was on hold forever, and when I finally got through, I had to call back several times. American Home Shield sent someone out who couldn’t fix it, so then they sent somebody else out who couldn’t fix it either, and they sent someone else out again. It was almost like they didn’t wanna fix it so they were delaying everything. The first technician that came out said that it was a plumbing issue. Then, the plumber came out and said, “No, it’s not.” The first guy came back out and said, “You just need a new dishwasher.” American Home Shield wasn’t interested in giving us a new dishwasher, so they sent another technician out. After four months of not having a dishwasher, we finally got a new one.

During one of the many times I called and said that the water wasn’t getting hot in the dishwasher, one of the many representatives I talked to somehow interpreted that to mean that I had a problem with my water heater, so they submitted a ticket for a water heater. Then, they started billing me for a water heater charge. That took another three months to resolve because they kept billing me a $75 service charge for a water heater that I never even had a problem with. We had one other issue and that was for our clothes dryer. It also wasn’t getting hot, so the clothes were ruffling around in the dyer. On that particular issue, they sent out a technician and the guy was amazing. He took the whole thing apart, found the problem, fixed it and we were up and running again right away. But based on the first issue with the dishwasher, there is no way I'm gonna stay with American Home Shield.

Our dryer was not heating up properly. American Home Shield assigned me to Appliance Care and it didn't take them long to come out - just a couple of days after I requested the appointment. The gentleman who came and responded said the unit required a part that he didn't have. They had to order it. But nobody called me about how we needed to reschedule the service. I went ahead and called AHS after a couple of days. I needed to make an appointment to get the part installed. Somebody else then came out and installed the part. That didn't take any time at all. The dryer seems to be great now. American Home Shield was great. I loved their website and everything was really easy. I like the way that it tracks the serviceperson too so I didn't have to sit at home and wait all day. I could just tell when they're leaving and how far away they were. I like everything.

AHS said that the Thermador boards were fried. At the entry level with the reps, everything was very pleasant. The people came and picked up the board. When I found out that they wanted to rebuild that particular board, I said no and that I wanted a new board or a new oven. It was two hours on the phone with them every time to go through this. It just escalated and every once in a while, a closer would step in who was very demeaning, trying to not shame me into a decision, saying that there’s no more escalation, that they’re not gonna handle it.

Finally, they said that they will replace but somebody stepped in and said that they’ve already rebuilt the boards and will not replace it. The guy was not very presentable. I asked who made the decision as I didn’t tell them to do that and he got a little indignant. They will not give me price in lieu as well and so that part has been very difficult. It’s an older oven. I called around to find anybody that had any new parts for that and nobody had. All the parts have been discontinued. And I thought that American Home Shield has been reasonable and actually due diligent on a few of other claims.

After about 10 times on the phone, one lady finally said to get me price in lieu. Then a week later, they said no, that they already ordered the part and they’ve done things. I said that I’ve already been through that and they can’t have it both ways. They keep referring to G7 in their contract where they have the right to repair. But in that same sentence, it says that they’re not responsible for any losses from that repair yet they want me accept what I think is truly a Band-Aid effect just because they have some certified manufacturer that says that they can rebuild that part.

I thought that was very unreasonable. Nobody buys a refurbished computer anymore because it doesn’t work out. I don’t even know if it’s compatible with the rest of the system. We’re forced to get a new oven as we had no choice. We couldn’t sit for six months without one and AHS refused to pay for anything. The other gentleman mailed a complaint form out to me so as soon as I get that, I’ll fill it out and go from there.

The one thing I found very difficult was that we had a circulating hot water pump go out. When we called to have it replaced, the guy that did that said that the old had a built-in timer and the new one has a new timer that’s separate. There’s no electrical outlet on that area so I had to get an electrician and the guy has to come back. It took a while, and in between time, I had the guy look at the garbage disposal when he was here ‘cause it was making a funny noise. But then I get a letter in the mail denying the claim and I never made one. I should call back on it. All in all, my experience with American Home Shield has been a plus on the average. It has been up and down. The rest of the people there have been doing their job. They try to see your point of view but they already knew they were told no.

We paid out of pocket for the rest. After paying $75 for the rekey, we ended up paying another $250 more. I also made a claim to them when my freezer was leaking water. Doing the claim for that online was easy. Casey's Appliance was my designated contractor. They were a different name than what was on the website. But they fixed the problem and that was great. My thoughts on the claims process are kinda mixed. I have an upstairs and a downstairs AC unit, and I needed both of them to be looked at. But when you fill out the website and you say you need to do a claim, it only lets you say central air and then it goes on its way. So when the air conditioning company called me to set up the appointment, the rep told me to make sure that I had both units on the work order or else they’d have to charge me. So I called back in and I spoke to someone who didn't appear to have English as her first language. She had a very nice tone and a very nice voice but it was very frustrating playing with the communication gap. It almost seemed like she was a bit condescending to me.

But we caught the AC issue right at the beginning of a hot spell and fortunately, the guy came out within a couple of days. It’s been 90 degrees here everyday last week. We wouldn’t have made it if the AC still wasn't cooling. This is also a different company than the one American Home Shield had doing air conditioners for them in the past because I had a claim about seven years ago. But I like these people. They are a little more professional. The work was done by the time I got home but the technician was still there and he went over everything with me. He said the issue was the condenser. He said that they wear out but he replaced that and I had cold air again. Since then, the house has been maintaining temperature.

I have had AHS for two years now and I was putting in service requests from time to time for minor repairs and such. Typically the $75 you pay for a service request exceeds the cost of what the maintenance actually costs so you'd be better off just finding a repair company on your own to fix the issue. On top of that, their contract is very shady in that it doesn't really cover the important items for which you would actually need to repair. For example, if you need a plumbing issue resolved but don't have a main line clean out, you will not be covered for anything on that.

I spent $12k for plumbing repairs - AHS covered nothing but charged me the $75 for pairing me with the company I used for that repair. Another example: If you have a evaporator on your AC unit that needs to be flushed, AHS will cover that but they won't cover the process that requires the technician to get to that part. They also don't protect the consumer and continue to pair you with repair companies that are rated very low with experience, technical know-how, terrible customer service and you get trapped if you want to go with someone else.

They don't give you a choice with who they select. And, if you want a second opinion for a repair the company is telling you you need, AHS wants to charge you $75 again to do that. It's a total waste of money and scam. I would be better off saving the $390 I paid annually to find my own highly rated technicians and stop the waste of time trying to get approvals for something they won't even cover anyway.

If rating this company a "0" was an option, I would have done so. I contacted them a month ago requesting service for our pool pump. I was advised they would have a technician contact me within 24 hours. Nobody contacted me - I contacted the pool company provided to set up an appointment (this company lied stating they tried calling me and left a voicemail). We set up an appointment for May 3rd. I requested the technician call me when they come to my home so I could be present.

I waited at my home all morning - no technician showed. When I contacted the pool company they stated a technician came out and everything was fine, we just didnt have our pool opened completely. No technician came out - after multiple calls back and forth, we still did not reach a resolution. When I attempted to call again, the pool company stated I "cursed them out" and they refuse to provide us with service - this again was the company's third lie.

I contacted American Home Shield requested new service at no additional charge. I stated it would have to be a different company - the customer service representative stated they would do a service request with a different company. However, they did it with the same company - so obviously that company did not call us.

I called American Home Shield warranty approximately 5 times after simply requesting that my $75 service fee be refunded, nothing more. Multiple times they said they would call and email me back - they did not. They put me on hold for long periods of time with no resolution. They wanted further investigations because of what the pool company said - despite me pointing out the HUNDREDS of awful reviews online of this pool company of people outlining the same deceit and unprofessionalism.

I requested to be provided with their attorney's contact information so I could send a demand letter. The customer service representative today refused to provide this information. I asked her to transfer me to a supervisor - she stated that will not change the answer so there is no point. At this time, I will be sure to let everyone know how unprofessional this warranty company is. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I am entitled to my $75 refund due to their lack of services provided.

Our garage door opener broke with our car in it, we had to have our car so we had to call and pay for it. We couldn’t wait weeks if ever, it was fixed the day we called a repairman ourself.

By the way American Home Shield has our $200 deductibles upfront. They get your money then make you wait. I was told by the people that I called to fix our garage door they would not have come if we had used our warranty because they won't pay enough and they take a month to pay them. But like I say they got my deductible immediately and still have it even though nothing has been fixed in three weeks. I will spend one more day tomorrow begging them to help.

It's very difficult to submit a claim with American Home Shield. You cannot get through when you call them. It's always on hold. The only way I can get through is if my internet is up. Then I'm able to put the claim in and they would get back to me. They do a good job there. But if my internet is down, I can't even put in a request. I can't stand it. When issues occur, like with my air conditioning unit, that is truly something that should be done ASAP. They should improve on the telephone calls for when we're calling to make a repair call. They need more workers and service people in the areas.

But when they get somebody out here, they do assist me and do good work. However, I didn’t have a very good experience when the contractor came to do my air conditioning unit. From his demeanor, his attitude and even his approach when I shook his hand, he had no customer service skills at all. He was a very nasty person and he was out there with a friend, cussing. He was just going about his personal business although the issue was resolved. The appliance guys, on the other hand, have been great. The icemaker was not working properly and Caltech Appliance came right out. They found the issue which was a part that had to be replaced because we could hear it turning. The technician said it was not gonna last long. They said they could get it together for me right then but they were gonna have to order the part. Once the part came in, they notified me and the technician came out. It was less than five minutes to put it in and they left.

We were referred to American Home Shield by people who have it and we started with them five months ago. We made a claim when our AC unit was showing that it was on but the fans were not blowing any air. Crispy Air & Heating was the contractor we got and the guy who came out he diagnosed the problem. We were told that there was a warning showing that all the Freon would leak out of the system. The cautionary device wouldn't allow the air conditioning to malfunction any further and wouldn't let the AC wear itself out. He found a leak in the system and he fixed it. But a request had to be sent up for approval so he wasn’t able to fix the AC that day. Luckily, it was early in the season. If you don’t have an AC in your home in Arizona, it could be pretty brutal.

Four days later, another technician came out and did the repair. The system was recharged and everything seems to be working good now. The biggest issue was the claim was not completed in one day. In Arizona, especially if you have elderly or if you have children, having no AC could be pretty dangerous. There was also the out-of-pocket expense that caught us off guard because AHS doesn't pay for the whole Freon. They only pay a portion of that. They paid $10 per pound but that stuff is $65 a pound. The total claim cost us almost about $650. Still, we got really lucky because I know a lot of people have a lot more extensive cooler repair than we did. Ours was a pretty simple fix.

Both the guys who came for the repair were very professional. They were very helpful and polite. Their vehicle was well-marked too. If you call Comcast or Xfinity, they hire private contractors to come out. They show up in a station wagon with a ladder strapped to the roof and you’re like, “Really?” They do shoddy work too as they're paid hourly. The more jobs they get, the more money they get.

He had all the parts available and didn’t have to reschedule with me. He went in and replaced all the parts. However, I don’t know what the deal is with the toilet. They fixed it twice now and it’s still not working. It's still not flushing. It flushes but you can't just push it and let it go. So, if you don’t, it clogs it. The sink that they also fixed is backed up again. I'm gonna have to put in another claim, and it just kinda stinks. It’s not their fault, but I have to pay another $75 because you only have 30 days and it's over 30 days now.

Sending in the claim to American Home Shield is easy. But I have an issue with the fact that their processing of $100 deductible doesn't always go so smoothly. I have no qualms when the companies they work with reschedules, but to get the $100 back because the service never occurred is a whole other story. I have a home where I had a washer and dryer fixed at the same time. They both had problems and there was only one service fee. But American Home Shield kept charging me two. And then they send me notices that I owe a $100. I called them five times to get that one squared away.

My other issue is the offshore people that they use now. They didn't use to use them. Their call centers in the Philippines and they've been okay, but they're not the easiest people to understand. My latest issue is the increase in the cost. I got a renewal notice, and my contract went from $43 a month to $60 a month. That's a big jump. And when I called, the offshore guy started reading me his script. But in terms of getting somebody out, my experience has been fine. Also, I have not had an issue with the service providers in general. They've been pretty good. The contractor that we got for our water heater was horrible. They came out Friday and looked at the water heater and determined that it needed to be replaced. The person said it would take three to four days. I called initially and the contractor gave me the stuff that wasn't covered, and they told me the cost. It was almost like I was getting something free from them. I've talked to several different ladies. The first one didn't really know the answer, so someone else jumped on the phone, and explained the process to me about this part that wasn't covered. It was fine. I called this morning and I felt like I was getting some type of assistance free, and they were doing me a favor. The rep said the soonest the tech can come is Monday. I'm the one that is almost two weeks with no hot water in my house. It makes it hard to shower.

But the thing about it was she was not apologizing to me or saying, "Hey, we're really backed up, because a lot of people are..." She just said that that was as soon as she can get me. But I haven't had hot water in a while and it's frustrating. Not to mention the time, where they said they could be here on Monday between 12 and 4. I asked her if they could call me 30 minutes before because I have to work. She said they could guarantee 15 minutes. The staff in the contractor's office was not friendly. I would never give them my business if I had to make a choice. I would rather use someone else. But as far as American Home Shield goes, that part was not bad.

American Home Shield is a great warranty and a great service. We used to have it a long time ago then we recently got it again. We've had it for about two months now and so far, everything’s been covered. Submitting a claim is a pretty easy process. I do it online because it’s more convenient for my schedule. We had a drain that was completely stopped up and then our shower wouldn’t mix hot and cold together. American Home Shield sent A & S Plumbing out and I really liked that company and their contractors. I did not care for GE's and in fact, they didn’t fix my problem. I’ve got to call them back out again.

But then we would find out that it was a different kind of warranty but they could cover it for an extra few dollars a month. Called AHS as we purchased the plan with the new home purchase. We had 2 issues. Two toilets were leaking and the water supply system pressure tank is leaking. Toilet entries were easy to find on their site, but there was no place to specify the pressure tank bladder leak as an issue. Decided on the "a pipe is leaking" entry. Service was quick, but that's where things went bad. In the process of fixing one of the toilets, the plumber discovered that the closure valve on the tank fill was bad and could not be shut off. He said he could not repair it because it wasn't on the original work order, and we would have to open a new issue and pay the deductible again in order for him to come back out and fix it.

Then he told me that because we specified a pipe leak and his work order did not say pressure tank leak he could not even look at it because we would have to call and open another ticket and pay another deductible fee for him to come back out and look at it - if it was covered. Now the ice maker has stopped working on the refrigerator. This means that the deductible bill will now be $300 for a warranty that cost $480. Calling a plumber costs an $80 trip charge, and they can fix everything when they get here. Buyer beware - this is NOT worth it. Won't buy another home warranty product again.

(This is on page 9 of my 10 page contract.) I called AHS because my sump pump is intermittently not functioning correctly. They informed me that since the pump handles rain water, it is not covered. Even though it is "Permanently installed" and meets all specifications for coverage. I spent over 90 minutes on the phone with them to no avail. Pretty frustrating after spending $1000 on the coverage.

Obviously, I will not be renewing. (I feel like they want to find ways to avoid anything costly to them. They are not interested in putting the customer first.) Fun fact: I talked to a person in their authorizations department and they even agreed that it should be covered... but was then redirected to a different section of the agreement that gave them a loop-hole to get through and deny coverage.

    Original Review: May 22, 2019

When we purchased this home, we requested the sellers include a home warranty, as many appliances were old. They were able to choose the home warranty, which unfortunately meant us getting stuck with AHS. They are by far the worst warranty company... On top of appliances breaking that we find out they don't cover, we also had two very serious plumbing issues, which were listed as covered in our paperwork. We were told they were covered by customer service so we paid the $75 service fee and had a plumber come out. Then they tell us, "Oh actually this isn't covered..." We ended up spending hundreds of dollars out of pocket. Furthermore, this was an emergency service, yet the soonest they could get us a plumber was 24hrs out, even though they said same day.

Then, the plumbing issue happened a second time a day later, this time it was much more dire (quite literally sewage exploding from the toilet) and again they promised same day service and yet could not give that to us. Then this vendor told us they could not help us, that the insurance company would not cover anything he needed to do, and that we were essentially out of luck. Best of all, now we have paid 2 service fees, on top of paying the vendors themselves, and it took a week for everything to get fixed. The home warranty covered NOTHING and just made everything take longer, and cost more since we had to pay the fees.

I am 8 months pregnant and if I knew that they wouldn't cover anything, I could have called my own emergency plumber, and gotten the issue taken care of sooner so that I wasn't exposing myself to the previous owners sewage. It was not only dangerous, but damaged and ruined our closet flooring, the baseboards, our bathroom and many towels...costing us even more money. This company refuses to take responsibility for their terrible customer service, and just ended up costing us more money than if we had done it on our own. If we could drop them and get a refund for our policy we would. DO NOT go with this company.

I needed my faucet repaired or replaced in the kitchen. The plumber denied the claim because the water pressure was too high. He went on to state that the code is 60 psi, and my pressure was 105 psi, and that I needed an expansion tank and pressure regulator valve for a whopping 800.00. After being alarmed and frightened of the dangers that this could pose to my pipes, I had both the tank and valve installed. However, now the water pressure is extremely low in the bathroom, especially after flushing the toilet. I will see how the use of the washer goes today.

The plumber says I need other devices to fix this for an additional cost, and he then informs me to just use one thing at a time. This is completely unacceptable and bad business. I feel like I've been duped every time I take a shower, brush my teeth, or flush the toilet as I hope and wait for the water to get stronger, but it never does. In addition there will be another cost to replace the faucet. All I know is I had no issues until allowing these people in my home.

I paid $650 out of pocket and it still is not fixed! They offered to refund the $650 since the repairs didn't work, and now trying to say I accepted a cash-in-lieu offer and refuse to get it repaired! The unit is over 30 years old and BOTH companies they sent out stated it needed to be replaced by AHS is too cheap and wants to try to fix it first. THEN they sent me a check for $65.00 instead of $650.00 and won't answer my emails - phone calls are routed to a "customer service rep" who reads from a script and cannot help me AT ALL.

They are scam artists and will use every excuse they can not to cover a repair that is specifically listed on your contract as covered. I was disconnected FOUR times when trying to resolve this issue and never received a call back.

I've had my policy with American Home Shield for 15 years. I find that a lot of times there are things that need to be brought up to code and there always seems to be some sort of out-of-pocket expense. Something that's not covered. I had a water heater and it cost me outside of $500 to get things brought up to code according to them. On another thing, I paid nearly $1300 out of pocket. For what I get to pay in premiums per month to AHS and the few claims that I made, I could have stuck that money on a savings account and paid for the repairs that I've paid for. All my appliances are new and they're under warranty. I'm not sure if AHS is worth it.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling and I reported it immediately to American Home Shield. It took a day or two before technicians could get out here. My air conditioner is up on the roof. They had to have a guy who had a ladder that could get up to a two-story building. They did the job and were professional. But here's the thing. I had to have Freon of which AHS only covers $10 per pound and the retail price is $80 per pound. I'm at $70 a pound on the Freon. With the new units after 2020, Freon would be kind of outlawed. If these are out right now whatever unit they would replace them with would not be that particular type of unit. It's just a catch-22. I'm not totally dissatisfied with AHS, but I will probably not renew my contract next year.

The machine needs to be replaced."

American Home Shield would not replace it so they sent another company out. The first guy came out, ran it, and said it was fine. I said, "There's nothing in it. Of course, it runs fine. The minute you put anything in it, it won't spin." But he said, "Well, it runs fine now. There's nothing I can do." So, he left. And sure enough, we ran another load. My husband finally took a video of what the machine was doing and how loud it was and sent it to American Home Shield. It sounded like it was gonna explode. Nothing was getting cleaned. It wasn't spinning. So they sent another guy out. He took the whole machine apart and said he needed a bolt tightener. He retightened the bolts. The washing machine is working now but this is a six month process we've been going through.

American Home Shield has always been there for me. When there was a leak in my air conditioner, I made a service request early in the morning through the AHS automated system. It was very easy to navigate through and get everything scheduled. I had a technician out here before the end of the same day. He was on time and was very clean. Rain was pouring down over here and he couldn't help some of it, but he tried. He was very professional too. He diagnosed the problem very quickly and had it fixed within about an hour. But I had to pay 200 bucks for the Freon because AHS doesn't cover that. Other than that, my AC has been performing fine. It's hot over here and having the AC working has made life more comfortable. Everything was great.

We’ve had American Home Shield for 15 years now and we have no complaints. In fact, I recommend it all the time. When our air conditioners weren’t working, we called in and the interaction with the claims representative was very good. We were given within a week as the time to expect the contractor and they were there on time. They had to replace the unit and the service was good.

We most recently had a claim with American Home Shield for a leaking shower repair. The problem started when we moved in. We filed a claim online and it was pretty easy. However, I’m in the midst of a very, very poor experience with the contractor that I was assigned with. I caught them lying to me twice. It took me doing a bunch of investigation on my own to sort of catch them and force them to honor the Home Shield warranty and do the job that they had been contracted to do.

At first, it was an access issue where the shower diverter was behind the tile and the Home Shield warranty didn’t provide access behind the tile. The plumbing company told me that if I wanted them to provide access, it would be $175 out-of-pocket because it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. In a follow-up email, they tried to tell me that that exact same service that they had just said would be $175 was going to be $250. No reason for the sudden price increase. Then after that, I emailed them back asking them when they could come back. I provided the access myself and it wasn’t very hard to do at all. I just had to chisel out some tile and grout around.

The plumbing company responded saying they just got off the phone with American Home Shield who said they weren't gonna cover the rest of the diverter repair. So, it was gonna be $150 out-of-pocket. Without contacting them again, I followed up with American Home Shield and they said no such thing. They said that they had not been contacted since I last spoke to them and that if I had provided access, the diverter repair would be covered. I called the plumbing company out on this and they all of a sudden changed their tune. American Home Shield has been perfectly fine. The website was easy to use and I was able to get ahold of someone in claims approval relatively easily. But sending a shady contractor certainly doesn’t reflect very well on the company.

I scheduled service with American Home Shield for a routine check on my air conditioner. The communication with the person who came out for the service was good. My only complaint was that the technician came out and he didn't leave me any paperwork. Usually, a serviceman comes out, writes up what he found, any areas of concern, and what he did. I ended up getting the paperwork several days later from American Home Shield. The information was pressure readings and everything else. My air conditioner is an older unit. It seemed that it was fine and it wasn’t leaking Freon. The information was standard stuff but I wish that the technician would have left it when he came out to do the service call. I was gone at the time of the service but my wife was still here. Other than that, American Home Shield set everything up properly and that was good. That’s what I have the insurance for.

Making a claim with American Home Shield is a simple process. I had an issue with my garage where one of the cables came loose. It just came upward. It went like clockwork. A guy came and he fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes. AHS got the job done on that one but they didn't on another. We're having a problem with one of my guest bathrooms where there's an odor coming from somewhere and we can't tell where it is. AHS sent a plumber out. He didn't find anything but the problem still persisted. I was told the problem was in the pipe since it's a curved pipe and the water collects in it. That didn't make any sense so I requested that AHS send another plumber. They sent the same guy so the problem was never solved.

I had another issue with my plumbing with my kitchen sink and they sent the same company. It was a kinda wishy-washy situation. I went over the phone with AHS a couple of times regarding this issue. They told me that they'd send somebody different but they didn't. My assumption was that they only use this company for their plumbing service. What good is calling AHS gonna do if they're gonna send the same people who are gonna tell me there's nothing wrong with my plumbing when we know for a fact that there is.

The problem with that is that it's gonna cost me $100 deductible. I'd be really pissed off if they send the same people here again. That's why I'm hesitant on calling them again for the plumbing issue. But that is an issue I have to resolve. The purpose of having the warranty is to not have to pay for the service. Without it, I'd be paying probably 10 times more for someone outside of my warranty. Plumbers aren't cheap. Other than that, I'm satisfied with AHS' pricing.

Within 24 hours, we expected to have KamKo Plumbing to come out. They were there the next morning and they were awesome. They went outside and I hit the drain. They ran about 60 feet of auger through and things cleared up. The job was done in about 45 minutes. It was very convenient and quick.

We had claims for a washing machine and refrigerator, and we had some electrical work. I submitted the claims online and I got some calls, and within 48 hours, we had the service people out. Both parties that came out were very knowledgeable. They gave us information, did the service job, and cleaned up after themselves. It was excellent. The refrigerator is still up in the air. It was a part that they had not gotten in from Samsung. But they are keeping me informed as to when the part will come in and when they will come back out. So it's not causing any major issues. It's just a little water, but they're working on it. So I'm pleased with that. The only one that really affected me a lot was my washing machine, and that's because I normally like to wash and use it very often. But other than that, there was no issues.

American Home Shield appears to spend a lot of extra money and time on when you have services on your air condition unit. I've been here seven years and I've called six or seven times on my air condition units. We have had maintenance service ourselves out of our pocket that we pay for Freon. We put in doing maintenance ourselves when it's not cooling. We just have seasonal checks because we know that that's required when you call Home Shield. They wanna know if you didn't already pay, had a maintenance done or you're doing maintenance on your units. But it seemed like the people that come out always give you suggestions. But with Home Shield, you never take the advice that has been presented, even if it's in writing, and we have paid for it out of our pocket. The unit is a bad unit, and to me, it's not good money. It's bad money when you pay $95 or $100. But we paid for a $75.

It is like a rotating situation, especially when I'm having to pay $875 for an electric bill, because my unit is not doing what it's supposed to do. The unit needs to have a changing of the parts, and Home Shield keeps trying to piecemeal it together. That's the only issue that I have, but that has not been enough to have me to switch the policy. But that is one annoyance that I signed.

I've been with Home Shield since I've been owning a home back in 1996 when I was in Texas. And it was always the same thing there as well. I have written them letters to that effect. When we were in Texas, I banged a pipe and something was not up-to-date, so we had to come out of pocket with that, but we were not aware of that. So Home Shield needs to go more in detail, and people wouldn't get so annoyed. Even with the annoying situations, it seems like I still have a better deal in some cases. I still recommend American Home Shield.

I originally called up to have a tune-up done on my air conditioning unit because I didn't not feel it was getting cold enough. My air conditioning unit was leaking on the roof and Fidelity had a gentleman come out. He took the whole unit apart to look at it and there was something leaking. He said there was ice buildup and that I needed a whole new system. But before they could do anything, we got a second opinion from American Home Shield. The gentleman that they sent out never opened up the system. He just used a gauge to check the levels in my unit once the air was turned on, and he said I didn't need a new system. The unit is 32 years old, and it is rusting and leaking. He said that these units are better left untouched, which was odd for me. It was a bit frustrating since I expected the second gentleman to do the whole forensic exam on my air conditioning unit to make sure that it didn't need replacing. But he didn't even touch the unit.

The water filter on my refrigerator was leaking. We submitted a claim for its repair to AHS and though we've liked them, what has been a little frustrating is that a lot of times, we can't understand their people. They're foreign. Still, their contractor, Zerr Appliance Repair did a great job. He checked the icemaker but then didn't do a whole lot because the issue was clearly a problem with the seals on the water filter cartridge. So, he recommended getting a different brand name and the brand name we put in was supposedly compatible with the refrigerator. However, it had a slow drip to it which would get everything wet over a period of time. So, the tech just told us to do the other cartridge which we did. Though the tech didn't really have to fix anything, we're really satisfied with Zerr and we're happy with American Home Shield.

Updated on 05/23/2019: I called again today after I did not get a call back as promised yesterday concerning a follow up. This follow up was due to it being the 9th day after your technician came out and did a diagnostic on our unit. Today I was told the service call had been “escalated” to an advanced team member who was going to call me back. This was the same team member who promised she would call me back by 4pm today to let me know what would happen next. Due to my frustration of being without air conditioning for 10 days now I asked for my service fee and a pro rated amount of my membership fee back so I could contact my own contractor. I was then told I have to wait 24-48 hrs to get a call back about this “escalated” service call. I have already wait 10 days....and you want me to wait another 2.

You have to have the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 27 years of life. I hope NO one else falls victim to your horrible company. I am going to spread this review around as much as I can to prevent anyone else from doing so. Oh and I’ll be waiting for this technician recall and advanced members call. Don’t worry I’ll keep everyone up to date on how horrible this continues to go.

Original review: I have been having a problem with my A/C and we submitted a request for service. They sent out RAPPS Heating and Air whose technician appeared to be impaired on drugs. The technician recommended a replacement and told us not to have the coolant re-filled because it would be a waste of money (that was on a Monday). I called several days later because the tech said American Home Shield would call us and we hadn't heard from them. They told me the tech hadn't submitted a diagnosis yet but was supposed to by the next day. I called again two days later and was told they still didn't have it, RAPPS would call me.

I waited another day and called RAPPS who said the person over it would call me back since they were out to lunch. I called back 5 hours later because I had not received a call and was told that person was gone for the day and would hopefully call me back tomorrow (it is now Tuesday of the next week). I have been waiting 9 days including the 24 hour response time the contractor has to have my A/C fixed and there is no sign it will be fixed in the next couple days either. I want my service fee back and my yearly fee because obviously this company just ripped me off and took $700 from me and I have gotten nothing in return. Also they need to take RAPPS off their contractor list because obviously they can't handle the volume and have horrible customer service.

The contractor called within a couple hours to let me know they wouldn't be able to provide service until May 28th! It's over 80 degrees and we need AC! I called American Home Shield and explained the contractor could not perform service in a timely manner and requested they provide some other company. I was told there was no other companies they work within the area and I would have to wait until the 28th to receive service.

The customer service agent with American Home Shield said she couldn't escalate because the temperature wasn't over 110 degrees! The protection package is useless when they mandate when service occurs. Imagine a baby soaked in sweat and they say "you'll have to wait" over a week. Or, if your refrigerator goes out and you loose all the food because they don't have some company they sponsor to fix it. My solution is to pay out of my own pocket to get service in a timely manner and go through arbitration to receive back the full purchase price of the "Insurance" and additional funds to compensate pain and suffering. I made one call to a local AC service company and they will be out today. That's what I would have expected from American Home Shield but that is NOT the case.

They have no idea how I load my machine (we don't stuff it) and the buffer between the two drums is precisely what wears out over time on a front loader. It's the very definition of wear and tear. Kenmore says front loaders should last 10-15 years, which is the age of my machine. They were fine on the smaller claims but now when we really need the warranty they find a way to weasel out of it. This is their scam to get out of covering an appliance. Buyer beware.
