I noticed the puddle outside my garage and then I tracked it all the way back to where it was coming through the wall. I thought I had a plumbing leak and a plumber came out. He cut a hole in my wall and he said that it wasn’t a pipeline leak. He thought the drain line in my AC unit was clogged or backed up. It was overflowing out of the condensing unit then flowing down underneath all this and creating water damage and flowing out under my garage outside. When I finally got the AC guy came out, he blew out the line and put a T-unit so I can put bleach in there to keep the algae and stuff like that from clogging the pipeline up later on down the road.

I submitted the claim online because that was the only way I knew how to do it. This was the first time that I have ever done it. I ended up reaching out to the plumbing company right off the bat and got the appointment set up. Then later on, somebody from the place actually called me to set up the appointment. So next time, I’ll just let them contact me. It sounds like it’s an automated system. Once a claim goes in, there are a few points of contact of letting you know that somebody will be reaching out to you the next 24 hours. Then, they’ll reach out to you once they find a company to do it. The communication was either via text or email, where they kept me in the loop of what was going on.

I jumped the gun on calling the company and they came out. I still have to get my initial ticket which was the plumbing guy coming out because he got a hole in my wall which still has to be repaired. So I gotta try and set up some kind of a time. I don’t know how that’s gonna work because it ended up being an AC issue but the original guy that visited was from a plumbing place. So, I just want to get them to fix my wall back to where that it was or at least get it passed back with the other. It’s in my garage, so it’s not like it’s gotta be perfect. I left the hole open till I wanna make sure that the AC issue was resolved but so far, it seems like everything has been corrected. So, no issues there.

We’ve been in this home since 1996 and we’ve kept our American Home Shield active. When talking about repairs in our homes, the first thing I ask people is whether they still have their Home Shield warranty. I always tell them that it’s something that they would wanna keep. Most recently, we had a sink stoppage and I made the call to American Home Shield and then did the scheduling. Everything went well with that.

The technician from JD Drain Tech called us and gave us the time that he would be here then he arrived five minutes earlier than that time. He was quite organized and very professional. He went inside and was able to repair the drain with the roto-rooter. Everything worked out great. He was also very clean and he put protector above the carpet on our floors so my husband was very impressed. The technician was excellent. Everything seems to be working fine now and this has affected our day-to-day life tremendously. When you have a stoppage, you think differently.

A couple of weeks after I moved in, the spring on my garage door broke. I called AHS and they looked into it. The rep whom I spoke with was really efficient. She brought up my policy and told me what AHS couldn't do and she apologized. However, they said that the garage door wasn't covered. I asked how I would know that but then there was a different plan which I could have gotten that covers all garage door openers. Still, mine wasn't on there.

More recently, I submitted another claim online for my AC to get tuned-up. Submitting the claim online was super simple and their site wasn't confusing to use. That time, my AC upstairs wasn't getting cool enough versus my downstairs. Their tech from Air Quality Heating & Air Conditioning checked the refrigerant and made sure the wiring was all good. He gave me a look over. Then, he showed me how to adjust my dampers. He explained how the damping system works and told me to make sure that I change my filters. He checked the filter thereafter and made sure it was good. He was really thorough and I liked him. If someone was in the market for a home warranty, I would recommend AHS. You should double-check all the components that are covered under the plan that you pick and make sure that everything is covered.

Updated on 06/18/2019: In my earlier review about AHS I detailed the issue which has only continued. AHS has machines pretending to be people responding to complaints on this media, Facebook, etc. They respond via email and on this site that they want to resolve the issue. I sent multiple emails to a ** with no responses. I call the phone number on her email and it forwards you to the same call center in the Philippines, where the people can't or won't transfer you to Darika or anyone else in the USA. They keep reading from the same script stating they have to give the contractor 48 hours to respond before they can dispatch another contractor.

Do the math, it's been almost 30 days, 15 different people in the call center all giving the contractor 48 hours each. This is a never ending loop. The assigned contractor "Summer Breeze Heating and Air, INC" is just as bad. I've called their phone 14 times, half the time the mail box is full, and when you can leave a message they never call back. If anyone out there knows how I can break this cycle please let me know.

Original Review: AMS states a response within 48 hours from a contractor, my response took six days and the contractor was arrived 1:15 min after his original 4 hour window. The contractor stated he needed authorization from AMH to complete the Job and here I am Two weeks later with an incomplete job. I've called the contractor 8 time and the mailbox is full. I've talked with different people in the AMS call center (Philippines, using American names) 7 times, and all they do is read from a script, giving me the runaround.

I was told on May 30, by Rumolo in the call center that they would assign a new contractor if the prior did respond within 24 hours, on June 4 I call back, get a different rep named KC, she has no notes from Rumolo and she states she has to give the contractor 24 hours to respond to her. I then talk to the supervisor named Denzel and he commits to talking with the authorization dept on 6/5 in the morning and calling me back on that Afternoon. It is now June 6, 7:15pm, over three weeks without air conditioning in Atlanta, and no response from the contractor or AHS. As I read the reviews for AHS on Facebook, my experience seems to be normal. We should band together and initiate a lawsuit based on fraudulent representation.

Realizing this was an unnecessary expense, and after reading a thousand scam-alert reviews, I cancelled our monthly AHS subscription on 05/03. Our monthly renewal date was 05/08. I spoke with someone who assured me this would be cancelled, no fees would be charged, and that my credit card would not be charged for May. I was assured that everything was cancelled, there were no cancellation fees, and that my card would be wiped from the system. This morning, one month later, I get an email that says I have a past due cancellation fee on my account (which is coincidentally, the same amount as the monthly fee).

I called and asked why this fee applies. This man says, “You cancelled it prior to your renewal date.” I said, “Of course I did; otherwise, I would’ve gotten charged a monthly fee. To call on the renewal date wouldn’t make sense. My payment would’ve already gone through for another month of service that I don’t want.” He said, “That’s how it goes.” I said, “But that doesn’t make sense. You charge people for an extra month no matter what?” He had the nerve to say yes! I told him I wouldn’t be paying this fee, and asked for a supervisor. He flat out refused I transfer me and said a supervisor will tell me the same thing. I again requested to speak to a supervisor and he just said no, he won’t transfer me. I will absolutely be disputing this charge and will not be paying it. This company is incredibly sketchy.

After being assigned a contractor, I called the contractor numerous times and got no answer. I also left voicemails as the 24 hr mark approached. Very frustrated in receiving no call within 24 hours, I reached out to AHS. The CS rep could barely speak English. Long story short she left a message with the electrical contractor to call me. I explained I have already done that and got no response. I requested a different contractor and she kept repeating, "He will call you."

I then asked for her supervisor, as I am not a happy customer with the lack of service I am receiving from this contractor and I want a new one. She stated her supervisor was unavailable. I again repeated, "I have been without A/C for 1 week now and I need someone at my house before the weekend, today being Thursday." She repeated the same thing, "The contractor will contact you." She asked if she could help with anything else. I said, "You couldn't help me at all," and hung up. I have been paying into this warranty for years and am very dissatisfied not only with the lack of service from this contractor but the lack of professionalism from the CS rep.

Run from they company. Do not walk. If there was zero stars I would give it. It them over one month to fix my plumbing and two plumbers. One month with the water off only to turn it on when I had to shower. Yet they could care less. And after all of the wait they decided they would not cover it and they could not have been more unhelpful with the process if they tried. Have had many houses and have sworn by home warranties but this the first time I have used and will be the last time I use American Home Shield. Horrendous.

The CliffNote version: Had a major leak at the end of April where the with off value to the house was and it was flooding my yard and getting under the house. I called AHS on the 3rd of May. A plumber came out on the 6th. We need to turn the water off from the street of which we needed the city. City came out that Wednesday and the plumber back on Friday. Only to realize they needed to send a different person from the company out. The next week they were suppose to come out and no showed. This went on for weeks. All the while I have been talking with AHS and the plumbing company who then went silent. Last week I after talking with AHS once again they cancelled the original plumber and had a new one come out. The new plumber came out on the 4th. Over one month since I originally called AHS.

Wade's Plumbing. They were great. Highly recommend them. Too bad they are connected with AHS. Wade's calls AHS for authorization from AHS who now declines it. Which I was shocked about because I had talked with them at least five times on my own and the original plumber talked with them (we were on speaker) and they did not tell me it was not authorized. I then said, "Fine I just need my darn water to be on and I will pay for it."

I then asked that If I would get my $75 service call back and they said no. This is the part where I got very unhappy. This entire time along with the very first time I called I explained exactly the issue. If it wasn't cover they should have told me right out of the gate and not only would I have paid for it out of pocket but would have had it fixed in two days, not have it take AHS over a month to try and do the job. Again I had no water which was only doable because I was doing a lot of traveling. Again a horrible company. There is much better companies like First American Home Warranty to go with than this joke of a company.

As I could tell that the house was not cooling off the way it was, I put in a request and the process is very easy online. However, if American Home Shield would have just taken the recommendation from Myers originally, it would have been resolved within a week, very quickly, but they decided to do a different way and it took six weeks and two repairs. The gentleman who assessed the issue said that the whole air handler should be repaired. It went back to American Home Shield that said they're just gonna repair the part in it. When it came to four weeks, I had to call every single day. It took five weeks to get the part and they had to order the entire air handler and take the part out. When the part was repaired, it didn’t work, so Myers had to come back out and the same gentleman as before said the whole air handler needed to be replaced, and then they came out and did that in three days.

I had some electrical issues at the house. So, I had major systems go out. Everything that was connected to my 240 amp line was shut down, so my AC went out, dryer went out, and half the power in the house went out. I called American Home Shield because I have an infant child, and so, I wanted to let them know, “Hey, it’s kind of emergent, so the sooner we can get somebody out here, the better.” The lady I spoke with at American Home Shield understood what was going on and how important it was. She placed me on hold and started calling around to contractors to see who could be out here the quickest, and they came back on the line and said, “Hey, I got somebody that will try to get out there tonight, if not first thing in the morning.”

I had called the contractor that night to talk to them, but unfortunately, I didn't get a hold of them that night, but I left a message. And they called me first thing in the morning, talked to me and let me know what was going on. I let them know what was going on with the house, and they told me how soon they’d be able to get somebody out here. They were located about an hour and a half south from where I live. So, they got out here as soon as they could. I think it was the owner of the company that drove up himself. He was really nice. He explained from the beginning what was going on, what he thought the issue might be, and walked with me to do some testing on the electrical system to see what was going on. Once he discovered what the issue was, he walked me through the next steps of what I had to do to take care of it.

The issue ended up not being anything wrong in my house. It actually ended up being the power company’s line that went bad. So, it was only the 240 line that went bad, whereas the 120 line was still good, which is why we had half of our power. So, he walked me through the process of calling the power company, explained to them what happened and what needed to be done for them to come out and take a look and get it resolved. So, he walked me through the process while I was on the phone with them.

The power company, unfortunately, had to come out and do some work on the power line. But they came out the same day within an hour or two after the contractor left and set up a temporary box that they put up to get the power going to the house again. And now, we’re just waiting for the power company to come out and replace the line. When the power blew up, I lost my AC. And here in Southern Virginia, it was a scorcher last week. So, since the power company came out and hooked up the box, and got our AC working, it was amazing.

I’ve referred quite a few people to American Home Shield already just because I’ve used them quite a few times over the years. This is my fourth year with American Home Shield because they’ve been fantastic. A couple of years ago, I’ve had a hot water heater go bad, and they came out and got that fixed. I would absolutely tell anybody to at least call them and talk to them.

Within 24 hours, we had phone calls from both companies that were scheduled to come out and do the work. It was really simple.

The guys showed us exactly what was wrong. 2 Bald Guy was sent out for the dishwasher. The dishwasher's control panel went bad so they swapped out the control board and got that going. The dishwasher part took a little while to get in. But as soon as it did, the technicians came right out and got us fixed up. On the other hand, Ace Plumbing did our air conditioner. That was a simple fix. It was a bad connection so they had to replace a wire in there. Both my units have been great since the repairs. It's been a perfect experience with American Home Shield. The technician was convinced that it was some sort of a clog with the drain. I’ve cleaned it out several times on my own so I was convinced that it was not that. What he did was he checked the system, sucked it out, made sure there were no clogs, and it’s been fine ever since. Evidently, whatever he did corrected it. He was very professional and very nice. It was a hard job ‘cause he was up in my attic and it’s really hot up there. I appreciate the job that they do. So, all good so far. I’ve only done one claim and based on what I’ve done, the claims process with American Home Shield was straightforward.

Everything has been fine as far as the representatives I've dealt with. Everybody that they sent for my house, so far, was very good as well. When the drain was clogged up through the inside of the AC unit, it was Total Air Care that was sent out.

I bought a 2,600-square-foot home on an acre of property so it's a big house with big responsibilities. To be honest, it's a little stressful. It's a little overwhelming to have a lot. But having people who can help me, direct me and say what I need to do without wanting anything is awesome. The people at American Home Shield genuinely care and to find those people in this world, it's nice.

When you buy a home, everything is perfect until you start switching switches and a fuse blows or things happen. My family room, which is a really large part of the house, completely went out. There are six plugs in there which also connect to various plugs in different rooms in the immediate part of the house, all the way back to the bathrooms. So the plug-ins in all of the bathrooms didn't work along with all the outlets for the outside of the family room. I decided to test and replace everything. But I couldn't figure out what the problem was so I decided to call American Home Shield. I was hoping they would send somebody out that I've worked with before and that I prefer.

If I talk to Home Shield, I request specific people and Home Shield might tell me they would have to send certain guys out. There was a conversation where I said I wasn't happy with a guy's service before. They said I would have to use them but I told them that if they use those people and they show up at my door, I was not opening the door. I told them I would deny the service and go with another service. They said that if I wasn't happy, ultimately, I was gonna have to go with somebody else out then I would send them the invoice and they would replace the money and bill me back minus the $75 service fee. But I told them I didn't wanna have to do that. I asked them to just send me another person that they had used before and that I was happy with.

Naturally, there would always be misunderstandings with any company that you work with. They're not gonna understand if I don't explain it and put my foot down. At some point, they would need to take my word, which they did and that's definitely an important thing. They were like, "You know what? Let us work on something. Let us see if we can pull this person off of the network because you're not happy with them and not use them." That contractor took three days to do a fan job and I had to help that person.

American Home Shield was willing to work with me and I like their ability to be willing to communicate, understand and take my word for it. Ultimately, they sent the right people out and they worked great. We were bonding and talking the whole time, about cars, while the rep was working on things. These are good customer service people whom you could talk to and trust in your home. So I felt really good about that. If I were to start a company, I would go steal their people. I was really happy. It was one of those things where I would ask for a card or a magnet. I would be sticking their magnet on my fridge and make sure they get the job whenever something comes through.

They sent T&N and when the guy came out, he was the same one who worked on an electrical issue prior and I was happy with him. It was the same company and the same person. I thought that was cool. This guy is pretty knowledgeable and can troubleshoot stuff pretty quickly. He's a younger guy and I was hoping he could figure it out. There is an excess of anywhere between 10 and 20 outlets because one outlet can be connected to another and you not know it just because there is a positive, negative or neutral that happens to share that area.

We walked around for an hour, testing various things. In a matter of time and it didn't take very long, he figured exactly where the issue was and was able to compare it with an outside one that shared the same neutral connection. He was basically able to say that before this room was built, there was actually plug in that area. It sounded like he had prior knowledge about the home and the area, which is even more awesome. It was mind-blowing. He replaced a bunch of outlets that maybe had some wear on them that could be a connection to the issue. It was solving those little problems that could make the real problem more complicated. Then he figured out the main one, rewired it and capped some wires off that didn't have any bearing towards the situation and didn't need to be used. And boom, it worked. It involved 20 outlets connecting basically 90% of the entire house and about six lights.

Essentially, it was overly hooked up. There were wires going through the outlet which didn't need to be and had no relevance. So I guess there was an over-surge which ultimately was a reverse polarity. It was basically like taking a positive to a negative so whenever we did a plug-in, there was power to all these outlets and the power wasn't available because there was a reverse polarity due to the neutrals being connected where they shouldn't be. After he fixed everything, I was so thankful. I was offering him drinks. Then that next day, I went out, bought new outside lights to illuminate the outside of my property and redid everything because now, I could.

He looked at it and figured out what the problem was. He said he had to order a part and he went back. Three days later, they got the part and he brought it up and put it on. We had issues with the heat where it would turn on and off and wouldn’t stay on. So, we had a contractor from American Home Shield come out and check it, and they fixed the problem. The control for the furnace had to be replaced and they replaced it in a timely manner. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was an easy process. It was easy to get this particular service done with them. I have them for my two properties. I’ve called them about twice and they’re coming in at their third time for my other property. They did not do as well with my other service call. I had some plumbing issues and the company that they hired took about 45 days to come back and resolve it. And not only did they take over 45 days, that company put in their system that it was resolved. They never sent a diagnosis to American Home Shield. I had to call them as well as American Home Shield.

Initially, when I called that company, they said they were ordering the parts and will get it done in a week, but over 40 days passed and nothing was done, and I had to follow-up. AHS shouldn’t have that company on their contract because their reviews on Google are terrible. And I had a very bad experience with them and if other customers are giving them, on average, 2 stars, that means they’re not a reliable company to be doing business with. AHS should choose better service providers or people who provide good service. Even though that one service call didn’t go well, AHS is still a good company.

I had a leak and my sump pump didn’t work. I filed a claim over the phone with AHS because I had to explain the problem. It started out kinda rough because the person they sent the work order to no longer covers my area and nobody called me to tell me that. So, I waited and waited and I found out about it after several days. I called that company and they wouldn’t return my calls. But they said that they called American Home Shield and American Home Shield should’ve called me. And all the while, I had a sump pump that didn't work that could’ve flooded my whole house.

Once I got back to American Home Shield, I told them that that company no longer services my area. So then they wanted to send me another plumber, Stallion Plumbing, whose tech I would not let in my house because they sent me him before and he never fixed the leak. All that their tech would do is waste my time. He was literally walking out the door while the thing was still leaking. He said it’d stop but it never did. And if you look online and on Yelp, the guy gets zero stars. That’s how bad he is.

So, we went around and around then AHS sent me the last guy from Property Guardian. He was outstanding and amazing. I would recommend him to my family. He was that good and he was timely. If he said he was gonna arrive at a certain time, he was on the button. He was also very unassuming and just got to work. He looked at the sump pump and said that it was an electrical thing. He said that the electrician has to repair the electrical then he would come out and check the pump. So, another company came out and did the electrical. They were very mediocre.

After, the tech from Property Guardian came back and fixed my sump pump. It was the third time and he fixed the leak that nobody else could. And the sump pump has been working fine since then. Also, when he told me that he'd have to send the work in to see if my home warranty company would pay for it, I told him that I had AHS and he was just effusive. He had a good experience with them and he said that AHS is great. He said that they would take care of me, and that I shouldn't worry. And he mentioned some other home warranties that wouldn’t pay for anything.

She also answered my other questions about how the policy works.

    Original Review: June 6, 2019

There has been some frustrations regarding our recent claims with American Home Shield. It is working, but it’s been typically a lot of time on hold, and it feels like there are a lot of extra phone calls and extra processes to try and figure things out. The representatives that have the Indian accent are a little hard to understand and I couldn’t get some straight answers about our plan. American Home Shield also double charged me on the rekey thing. Apparently, somebody had canceled the order because they couldn’t find somebody in my area and therefore, it voided the $75 I had already paid, and they didn’t tell me that. They opened up another ticket, and they were saying that I owed the money I had already paid.

The resolution definitely has taken a while and I’m not even sure it’s resolved yet. The person that I talked to in the US was more helpful. She was pretty good. She was wonderful about sending my contract to me ‘cause I said, “I can't get a person to tell me what’s covered. Could you just email me the contract?” But, again, she put me on hold for a supervisor and it was over 20 minutes. It was never fully resolved. One contractor also mentioned being frustrated with being on hold for about two hours with American Home Shield. He was frustrated with trying to get the warranty to cover things. Maybe now that he’s set up, it won’t be a problem.

We also had water leaking in the house. I was talking to somebody and I said, “I need somebody here today. Can you find out if there’s anybody available in our area?” That whole process took a ridiculously long amount of time. It’s been hit and miss with American Home Shield. It has not been a great experience but there are some good things too. The contractors have been pretty good. The reps are most polite on the phone even if they don’t fully understand. It’s just been kind of confusing to find out what’s covered and what’s not. We bought the complete plan so I thought it would be a little more straightforward. The good news is they are covering the things we need covered so I think that’s gonna work out. We have a few more issues I need to ask them about if they’re covered and I'm hoping I won't be on hold forever.

Whether I call in my claim or use American Home Shield's online system, they're always fast. I get a response from a contractor within a few hours. The last couple of times that I had a claim, everyone that came out were able to identify the issue. But when we had an issue this winter with our AC unit, the contractor sort of misdiagnosed it. I had to have someone else come out who was outside of Home Shield to address the issue. But other than that, I rarely had any issues. We recently had a pipe that was clogged in the kitchen sink. The tech ended up having to use his 100-foot snake to clear it out. He had to rebuilt the trap area underneath the sink because the pipes were old and some of the old rings were damaged in the process of removing it to get the snake in there.

We've used American Home Shield for a really long time, and we've been happy with their service for all these years. I've recommended co-workers and other folks that have older homes to look at Home Shield or a home warranty system because of the issue that we had with the pipes that we got addressed last week. We had an issue with the freezer within the same time, so it was just a lot easier using Home Shield than having to research and wait. They're always responsive, so I've recommended them in the past.

And so, I had an appointment schedule with them on Monday, June 3rd. Friday, May 31st, I went into the guest bathroom and heard a drip and it was coming from the ceiling. The overflow pan in the attic had overflowed and was dripping through the guest bathroom.

So, I called the AC company immediately. They answered the phone at 6:30 in the morning, and I asked if they are able to come out that day. They said, “Absolutely.” And so, they did. And the tech that they sent was absolutely fantastic. Not only did he fix the leak, he made it so that it wouldn’t happen again. Apparently, whoever put in the unit in the attic didn’t put in a T-bar for the overflow pan. They put in a straight line so it didn’t work. So, he corrected the problem.

I contacted my insurance company, and they sent somebody out to put an assessment on the claim. He said that the tech for the AC company did an excellent job on the repair. He said that was probably the best he’d ever seen. And so, that really said something to me because they were totally unrelated companies. I'm very, very pleased with that experience.

My dryer would say “drying” and would just click when you turned it on to dry anything, but it wasn’t turning. It also needed a new belt. I submitted a claim online with AHS and their website was very user-friendly. But if you use the text, they were prompt and reached out to the company. Also, American Home Shield is doing a very good job on their end. It’s just that some of the companies that they’re using may not be as responsive as American Home Shield. But the tech who came out for my dryer diagnosed the problem and installed the new belt within 20 minutes. That company was great.

Yesterday, I submitted another claim online for my AC and it was a horror story. After I submitted my request for service, I followed up with a call to the company that they assigned to me on 5/29. They said someone would be calling me back within two hours but I waited two hours and heard nothing. I called a couple more times and got the same thing. On 5/30, they finally showed up at 8:20 in the evening. They said they fixed the problem but they didn’t have enough coolant so they would come back the next day. That was Thursday night. On Friday, they didn’t show up, so I called them first thing Monday morning. I spoke with John and he said he’d be out that afternoon. He again came at 8:30 that night and at the time, I still had AC. Then, he went out to put more coolant in the AC. He worked for over an hour and when he came back in, he said some valve wasn’t working, so he was gonna have to order a valve.

I asked him if I still had AC and he said no. Then, they were approved by American Home Shield for the valve and I paid for the additional coolant that apparently leaked out when they put the valve in and have to redo the coolant. At that point, it was hot in our house and I couldn't get anyone to call me back from this company to let me know even when they were coming.

I also made a phone call to AHS on 6/4 and I spoke with someone. It sounded like they may have been one of those service centers in India and I asked to speak to a supervisor because the rep I got wasn’t answering my questions. I was on hold for 46 minutes and finally I gave up. It was one of their message centers having disgruntled people give up and hang up. But I got a very good response when I texted them. So, I’d recommend people to use the text just because I'm not sure if their call centers are as knowledgeable.

I also recommended AHS to my son when he bought his house and he got their warranty. He also had the same issue with his AC and it took him over three months to get a company. He had to give up on the first company and they had to send someone else because there was no response. Overall, in the four and a half years that I've had AHS, their service has been very good. They give me peace of mind and I pay a small amount per month for that peace of mind which I'd rather do than having to put this huge amount out for major appliances or an AC unit.

I filed a service request for my dryer and I couldn't get through with American Home Shield. Getting to the right website, in order to start the claim process, was difficult for me this time, and it’s never been difficult before. They changed the way they do things. But I finally did, and I paid my $75, and shortly thereafter, MS Appliance called and we worked out a date. The tech came out and looked at the dryer. He said, “I know what’s wrong, I need to order a part.” Ten days later, he had the part, and came and installed it. The dryer’s working splendidly. Dmitri, the person who came out, is a genius. He can diagnose quite simply, and he does the job. I would highly recommend AHS.

I file my claims to American Home Shield online and the website is pretty straightforward. I used it for the first time to call the AC guy out and most recently, I had a small water leak with my water heater. They typically send someone out in less than 48 hours. Loyalty Home Services came out for the water heater and the tech was very friendly. He determined it as a T&P valve and was in and out within 30 minutes. Everything has been great.

DO NOT USE AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. My dryer went out 7 days ago, so I contacted AHS to request service. I paid the $82 fee and was emailed saying Ralph’s Plumbing and More would be contacting me within 24 hours to set up an appointment. Over 24 hours later I had not heard from Ralph’s, so I called them myself. The sweet woman who I spoke to informed me that their office was over 2 hours away from my house, so they couldn’t service my dryer! We both didn’t understand why AHS would dispatch them knowing where we were both located!!! Fast forward to the next day. I call AHS to get someone else dispatched (because a representative had not contacted me at all) and I get set up with an appointment for Sears on June 5 from 1 - 5 pm. Great!

June 5 gets here (today) and my wife took off the entire day to be able to meet the technician at our house. Around 2:30 I get an email saying the technician is on his way! Great! I get off work at 4:00 and go home to find out that he still hasn’t made it to my house. I had already gotten an email asking me to rate his service and saying the service had been successfully completed, so I’m confused! I call Sears and they tell me the technician tried to reach me multiple times unsuccessfully, so he just didn’t show up. They had some RANDOM phone number on file that was not mine or anyone else’s that I know. They say there is nothing they can do, despite my extremely angry rant. DONE with Sears.

Next I call AHS. I explain the situation and again I am told nothing can be done today. Mind you, I’ve already paid $82 for this repair and my wife lost $100 of pay by taking off to meet the technician at home. I am FURIOUS at this point. Now I’m being told we will have to take ANOTHER day off work (but nobody can tell me what day because a technician isn’t available for another WEEK) to get the dryer fixed!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. DO NOT USE AHS. EVER. By the way, I typed this entire review while I am sitting on hold with a representative trying to get a refund for this HORRIBLE service. I have been on hold for 25 minutes!!! This phone call has lasted 1 hour and 24 minutes a far!!! TERRIBLE SERVICE.

Our central AC unit went out the Friday before Memorial Day. They recently had someone come out and "fix" it, September 2018. Which we believe it wasn't really fixed because two weeks after that we had to turn on our heat for the winter. We just turned on our A/C for the summer and it hasn't worked. We called and let them know as we were on vacation, May 24th. We were told that someone would be at our house on Tuesday (May 28th) to look at our AC unit. Tuesday comes around and we take off work because the supervisor we talked to on the 24th told us someone would come in between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.. 3:00pm comes around and no one called or showed up to our house. I then called them around 3:30pm and ask them if someone still coming. They told me no even though my fiancee took a day off work. So we lost a days pay.

They said that the supervisor we talked to shouldn't have told us someone would come out that following Tuesday. They also said they would investigate the call and never did. I told them from the beginning that we have a three month old and a two year old that has asthma. We also told them from the beginning we are foster parents and we could get in serious trouble if our house stays too hot. Our house was 86° at 7 p.m. when we got home from vacation (May 27th). We were then told someone wouldn't come out until next Monday (June 3rd). Which means that we would have to wait a whole week with no kind of cool air.

I finally got them to agree to let me use an outside company. I had the company come out the same day and look at our AC unit. They diagnosed the problem and said they would find the three parts for AC unit. The companies said that our AC unit is over 20 years old and when they trying to find the parts they were not able to find them because they're not made anymore. I have called American Home Shield almost everyday since that Monday and have been on hold around an hour before I'm even able to talk to anyone. Once I told them that the whole AC unit needed to be replaced they told me that the price was too much. American Home Shield never called me and told me that they needed a second opinion until I called them and waited an hour for them to tell me. American Home Shield then said we didn't qualify for a window unit even though it has been over 94 degrees outside and 86 degrees in our home constantly.

They have been giving me the go around since May 24th. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. Their motto is "We'll help guide you to the right home warranty plan with AC coverage for your needs. Then, next time the air goes out, you won't be stressed about the hassle and expense of the repair. Our qualified, professional service contractors will diagnose, repair or replace your HVAC unit as your contract stipulates." They haven't done any of this! In fact, they have added more stress on top of our already stressful life. After this is all said and done they will lose a great customer! Beware of all the hassles and hourly holds they will put you on just to talk to you for 2 minutes. I have basically just been giving money away to a company that does not want to help! They just waste your time and money. They don’t care about you or our family!

I have now waited 2 months for the refund. Every time I call to check on the process, everyone plays dumb and I have to explain everything for square one. I get transferred around and then just told to “wait”. If I ask for numbers/direct lines I’m told they don’t have direct Phone lines. Complete waste of time. We are going on 3 weeks now getting the replacement part to the repair shop, and a follow up appt. to have the technician fix the problem. Why in the world would you only have one company to work with warranty items in a 50 mile radius. Customer service puts the blame on the repair co. While the repair company puts it on the warranty service. AND it’s costing us $800.00 out of pocket for the freon! What $ did I save having a warranty co? I am very displeased with customer service. This began back in April. American Home Shield had a special for a $75 AC check up. We had no problems before then. By the time Myers AC Heating and Plumbing finished, we paid out $1240.00 for repairs supposedly not covered by our home warranty. First of all the first technician did not do a good job as he missed that our breaker was bad. Before the second technicians came out, we got a second opinion so we waited a week to make an appointment. It was still cool during that time. The second 2 technicians came out that did the shabby work. They left things dirty also. The system ran for a while then eventually stopped.

The 3rd technician came out and stated that we had a Freon leak. We supposedly had 10lbs placed in the system although our second opinion guy said it only held 7lbs. Odd. We had to wait 1 week and 1 day for the 4th technician to come out and state the the parts to inside and outside units were wrong. He also told us about the breaker box and other things wrong. His name was Brendan a master installer. We were thankful for him and only wanted him to do the work.

We waited another 5 days for him to come out on Tuesday 06/04/19 between 2 and 5 pm. Guess what, he never showed, at 9 pm we called their service center. Now they claim it will be Thursday. The technician kept pushing the time back and not being upfront with us. I am beyond angry and frustrated. We have been taking off from work losing hours waiting on this company to finish the job. We are in 98 degree weather in Mobile. Our house is >92 degrees the past couple of weeks. we are waking up with cramps in our legs. Please help us in Mobile, AL. I am seeking legal council at this point- Mrs. **

The contractor that American Home Shield sent out was great. Our microwave had caught fire for the second time and they came out. Within five minutes, he determined it was unsafe. He said he wasn't fixing it. They were gonna get it replaced, which I'm happy about because even if they were going to repair it, I wouldn't wanna use it anymore. So so far, that's great. They contacted American Home Shield and put in a claim. Then I got an email indicating that I needed to pick out the replacement but they didn't give me a very detailed description of how to take measurements of a microwave. I didn't know I had to measure from the back of the microwave to the handle and I don't know who would know to do that.

I had to have a conversation with a customer service representative who didn't speak very clear English on the phone. That was very frustrating because she wanted to put me in touch with someone to finish up my claim. But we didn't need to finish up anything. I told her that we got an email telling us to make a selection and that I needed to understand how I would do that. But she didn't get it. I probably spent 45 minutes getting aggravated with her and ended up calling back the next day. I spoke to somebody that spoke proper English then and got everything moving along. While all this was happening, I received an invoice for an increase in my monthly rate, which I'm a little discouraged about because I have not used them that much over the past couple of years. All in all, my experience with American Home Shield is okay but it's not the best. They could do a lot better.

It’s almost a year that I’ve been with American Home Shield and I've never had to submit a claim until now. My garbage disposal went out so, they sent a plumbing company. The gentleman went under my sink for two minutes, came back up, turned it on and said that the garbage disposal was fine and it had to be electrical. He said that he was going to transfer it to electrical and that way I didn’t have to pay another deductible. I said that was fine. I've missed work already for the contractor because they give you a time frame. The electrical came out and I missed work again. They checked the light switch and even went to my garage and checked where you switch it off and on. They said that it was where the electricity was coming off. Then he even proceeded to go underneath the sink. He asked if plumbing was out here because my garbage disposal was bad.

He did whatever he had to do and told me that AHS cannot transfer it back over to plumbing. I’m gonna miss work tomorrow from 9 AM to 1. It hasn’t been repaired yet and now, they’re sending the same plumbing company that said it was not the garbage disposal. I will wait and see what they will say tomorrow. I'm assuming they’re gonna go ahead and either fix the garbage disposal or install a new one, and then I'm hoping that it’s gonna work. It has been very inconvenient. I don’t know if it’s the same gentleman. It’s a garbage disposal and it should be fairly easy to detect if a garbage disposal is not good or not. I pay AHS every month automatically, no ifs nor buts about it, and I expect the same. I don’t know what company they are dealing with and if they’re competent companies. Giving their paying customer the runaround like this and the back-and-forth is not professional. I'm not happy.

That particular experience with the water heater was very excellent. Currently we're working on my dishwasher replacement. I wasn't informed when they were going to deliver it. The installer said the plumbing was bad. Whenever we turned the water on, we had no idea that the plumbing was bad. Now, the unit is a little bit part of the norm from the sink, so I can see why he thought I might need more tubing or something. But there's a whole other plumbing there.

They told me to call and have the dishwasher redelivered, so I had to get back with them. I called the delivery place and they said, "Oh, no. You have to talk to GE." So I called GE and they said, "Oh, no. You have to talk to Home Shield." I was on hold an hour and a half, trying to get to settle with Home Shield. So I'm not happy with that. I still have to figure out how to get the unit delivered and get a contractor to install it. Right now, it's not a fun experience, specifically with the waiting time being on hold. And it was not the first time I was on hold for an hour with them. That system sucks. That shouldn't be an hour, being transferred, and there was another transfer which is also extra time. That part of their operations is terrible.

Something was wrong with our dishwasher. As a matter of fact, we had it repaired several weeks ago and it went bad again. We submitted a claim over the phone with AHS and we had to wait a little bit because when you call, you have to wait until you’re the next person in the queue. But other than that, it was good and they solved my problem. They got a repair person, made an appointment, and got the thing done. But it took two visits to get the thing rectified.

The first guy that came out wasn’t a very good mechanic. But we called Home Shield and the same company sent another representative. This second guy was good and he knew the problem right away. It was with some kind of a module in the motherboard or in the electronics. He knew his thing and went right to work. He was really quick about it, too. He was also clean and did the job efficiently. And so far, the dishwasher has been working, so hopefully, it’ll remain that way. A month before that, we had a different thing for our wall oven and the mechanic who came out for that was very good as well. He solved my problem right away. All in all, I have no problem with the claims process of AHS. In fact, my sister became a member of American Home Shield through us.

At the exact moment that the pump of the pool went out, I had about 15 kids at my house and about 20 adults, and I didn’t want to stop and get on the phone. I claimed it online. Then I spoke to the contractor and told them to give me a heads up when the gentleman gets there and if he needs me there. I told him that the pump was right there on the other side of the fence from the pool and there were no locks. He handled everything while I wasn’t even there. He called and gave me a pretty informative explanation of what he did and what was actually wrong with it, and went on about his business. He put a new pump motor on it and my pool’s working great. Every time I’ve had to use American Home Shield, they’ve come through for me. I’ve recommended it to several friends already.

They found out it was a water softener that was the issue and American Home Shield does not cover a water softener. The contractors seem to be okay but the only thing is when I do call and ask for service, it seems the people are from out of the country when they talk.

The faucet broke and the water was pouring full-force. The tub couldn’t keep up and it was about to overflow so we had to turn off the water on the main. At first, I did the claim online and the website was great. The thing was, American Home Shield didn't have a contractor to respond. I called the first contractor because I can’t live without water and asked when were they coming. It was a Friday and they said they couldn't come out till Monday. It's very difficult to live without water for that long.

I called American Home Shield and asked if there was anything they could do. The person I spoke with said she was going to find me someone and that she had left them a message saying I wanted them to come out that day. I called the second contractor after some time, and it took me a while to get in touch with them. They said they couldn't come that day and they would be coming out Monday.

So then, I called American Home Shield again and it took a while to get in touch with them. I had to be on hold before they came on. But once they were on, they were very, very helpful. I explained, and the guy said, “Yes, I’ll try.” He was so nice and he made me wait 5 or 10 minutes. He called people and found Quick Service to help out on the same day. They were a real nice company too. It’s not just anybody. So, I was really appreciative. I’m very happy with Quick Service. When I called them to confirm the appointment, they asked if I could send them a picture of the faucet. I did and they knew what was wrong. They could see the name of the faucet so they brought the right part.

My neighbor had the same issue and his plumber didn’t bring the right part so he had to wait three days. On the other hand, these people came with the right part and technician fixed the whole thing in about 10 minutes. There was cartridge inside that was broken, and he said that that’s what happens if that cartridge gets broken inside. He replaced it. He was excellent.

I was really impressed with American Home Shield. I got better service than if I would have had to call a plumber by myself. But it would have been great if on the internet, there was any way of asking if they could expedite the claim making sure that I had someone coming out that day. Also, another incident happened yesterday and I’m not happy with that company that was sent. I wasted my $125.

I had one incident with one vendor where I wasn't happy with what they did and in terms of their follow-up. When I called American Home Shield, they were on it and they got me somebody else. Another technician came from the same contractor and he was excellent.

Recently, I had one sink that was totally stopped up and the other one was slow. Joy Plumbing came out within 24 hours of my request and they were great. American Home Shield is different now than it used to be when I first bought them many years ago. I’ve been with them for 20 years or more now. When we used to call in for repair, we would normally get calls from contractors right away and get scheduled right away. But it seems like now, that’s not the process of the contractors. It takes much longer to get repairs.

My most recent claim was with the AC. The first call that went out, I went through an AC company. It was Memorial Day weekend so understandably, the delay in them coming was typical. When I did talk to them, they did have 400 calls between my call and other calls that came in. But when they did come, Israel, the tech, did a great job checking the inside unit. When he went outside, it was determined not to be the AC but an electrical issue so we were referred to an electrician. The electrician company that was assigned called about two days later, and the soonest they could get was another five days out. I asked if there was anything they could do sooner because I don’t have AC because of the electrical issue. He said no and that would be the soonest they could come.

I was under the impression that I had an appointment this past Tuesday. I did not receive a call and no one showed up. So, at 5:00 o’clock, I called American Home Shield. I told them I was scheduled for a contractor to come out. I’ve already waited five days and nothing. I was reassigned another electrician company and it was after 5:00 so their office was closed. I called them that night and left a message. I asked if they could please try to come the next day because I don't have air, and it is hot. They did call me and we talked yesterday. They’re having someone come today. My fingers are crossed that they will be here today.

This is two weeks now without AC. This has been tough. Luckily, it is cloudy today, but we’re looking at triple digits starting this weekend. Everything is hot upstairs - the bedrooms and bathrooms. We’ve been sleeping downstairs on the couch. It is terrible but I’ve never seen it happen like this. We used to call American Home Shield and there was no four, five-day wait. That's the worst part about the program now. Luckily for me, I don’t have that many calls and I would still recommend American Home Shield.

AHS has been great. They sent out ASAP Plumbing for my toilet that was clogged. Normally, I could unclog it and I could not. And I noticed that when I couldn’t unclog it, the water started leaking from the base of the toilet. So, I let it leak out, cleaned it up, and then we decided to stop using it until somebody could come out. ASAP was able to come out quickly. And they snaked it, they found the clog, they checked in the front of the home as well that the drain was in fact cleared, and then they reset the toilet and resealed it. So, I haven’t had any trouble since.

I filed my claim through AHS’s website and the process was super easy. The turnaround time for this specific claim was quick. Within 24 hours, they had me scheduled. Other claims have not been as great. There was an air conditioning company that I used and the turnaround was three to four days. I had reoccurring problems with my AC. It’s now taken care of, but that was a little bit of a lengthier process.

Other than that, the technicians have been great. I’ve no concern with the techs. We did have one tech through the air conditioning company that I was a little apprehensive about. Him and the gentleman that both came were arguing and yelling about how to fix the problem in Spanish. I speak Spanish, so we were very aware of what they were saying, which made me a little nervous because I was wondering if they knew what they were doing based off of what they were saying.

I even called AHS and said, “What do I do? It’s Friday evening. They’re not done. They don’t sound like they know what they’re doing. If something happens tomorrow and I have no AC, what do I do?” AHS was good about calming me and reassuring me that if something would go wrong on the weekend, I could call AHS back. They would handle it. Luckily, there was no problem but I was a little nervous. They were a little sketchy, but all the other gentlemen that have come to the house have been great.

American Home Shield sent A Plus Appliance for our washing machine. It was leaking out from the bottom. It was a Maytag Epic Z. There was a refrigerator that has an ongoing problem and they can't seem to fix it. So, they chiseled ice out of it the last time they were here, and they said they'd bring a part. They came and fixed the part. Two weeks later, it's leaking again. So, they're supposed to replace it because they can't fix it. So, the guy comes in. He looks at both of the things. He said, "I'll write a report on both of them."

My daughter tried to fix the seal in the washing machine because she thought it was this rubber seal that seals the front loader. But it wasn't. So, she took the front off washing machine and was looking to see where it could be leaking out. She ran a load and found out where the leak was at. So, instead of putting the washer together, she has to do laundry because she has a cleaning service. She has to use the washer everyday because she was laying down the towels, but the towels are right by the electrical wires. So, it'd be stupid for her to put it together and she discontinued to use the washer. So, when they came out to look at the washing machine, they automatically just said, "We'll write a report on it." The report says that the washer was disassembled. The front casing was took off of it. It was still functional. It's just that it was leaking.

I've been happy with American Home Shield. They've been excellent. I'd refer them to anybody. But under these two circumstances that I'm dealing with right now, it's highly unfair that they would deny it. I spoke to them yesterday and they sent me out Sears today to do a second opinion. And I told my daughter to put the front on the washing machine and we'll hope that they'd fix it. They have replaced a double oven and my fridge. They've replaced a stovetop, too. They have done their part. And it's one of the best things that we could have.

We put in the claim Friday night and they called us Saturday morning to schedule a day. The company that’s coming out to repair called and scheduled our appointment.

When AHS sent the guy out something was going on with the fan. It was wobbling as it was spinning, making all that noise, and it needed a part in there so it would spin the right way. They fixed it and switched it on just to make sure it was running right. It’s usually pretty simple to file a request with AHS. I log into my online account. I click submit a request for service, and then I just check what thing needs serviced. And then pretty quick, they send us a message saying that they got our request and what company will be contacting us to send somebody out to work on whatever it is we put a request in for.

American Home Shield would not honor a commitment listed on the front page of their own website! When my home AC coil developed a leak, they agreed to replace it... provided I purchase several pounds of old R22 refrigerant at nearly $100/lb! When I asked about retrofitting to use a newer refrigerant (at a much cheaper cost) they flat out refused. When I asked to speak to a manager, again, they simply refused. Even after pointing out that the front page of their own website recommended customers ask about retrofitting in just such a situation, they flat out refused to do anything.

Customer service issues are obviously wide spread. After speaking with several different customer service representatives, I encountered general rudeness, misinformation, flat out refusals to escalate, and overall unprofessionalism. The experience is akin to talking to a scammer...and that is the general impression I got from this company as a whole. A complete scam!

We used our AHS home warranty a few times prior to our most recent experience regarding a plumbing issue. We felt neutrally about these visits prior (long hold times to schedule service and little annoyances like the plumber putting the faucet knobs on backwards, the contractors were able to fix the issues in one or two visits) but it was their inability to service our plumbing emergency and their back and forth communication which ultimately resulted in us cancelling their services.

Our pipes burst during a polar vortex and we called to schedule someone to shut the water off (no known shut off valve) and repair the pipe. We waited on hold to talk to someone, you can generally expect to wait 30-45 minutes to reach a representative. When we spoke to someone we were informed someone would call us back within 4 hours. After several hours, my husband called AHS again. AHS dispatched the contractor who called us and informed us that they wouldn’t be available until 3 days later. My husband contacted an independent plumber to turn off the water at this point. I called AHS again and the rep walked me through the process of what they call an external authorization request.

I spoke to a representative who stated we would need to contact the authorization department for an authorization and reference number before any work was performed and these would need to be included on the invoice. She noted the service fee would apply which was fine. I spoke with the authorization department who provided a contract number and a dispatch number. I asked about who would provide the authorization and reference numbers and he said I just need to email the provided email address with the numbers he provided. Thinking we were good to go, we emailed the invoice as instructed with the numbers we were provided after the repair was done. Here’s where we started getting the back and forth from AHS.

I called several times to check on the reimbursement status and see if there was anything else they needed. Some representatives said they hadn’t received the invoice, some said they are looking into it, and others stated they needed to talk to the plumber. We resubmitted the receipt and had the plumber call. Some time later, I called a last time to check on the status and a representative stated they would be sending us a letter. We received the letter which stated that they denied the reimbursement because they didn’t talk to the plumber prior to the work being performed. We were surprised because this was different than what the rep told us on the phone when we called about the external authorization request.

We had the authorization numbers they gave us prior to the work being done. AHS was not able to provide a contractor in a timely manner in this situation and misled us on the process for an external repair. We ate the cost of the repair and as a result cancelled our home warranty. This experience was the last straw with AHS and we found that a home warranty is not worth it for our situation. We will be working directly through trusted contractors in the future. I hope this review helps home owners evaluate their need for a home warranty and cautions them in working with AHS in more emergent situations.

After having good experience with American Shield in the past I have noticed a definite decrease in customer service. After numerous attempts to contact someone, anyone, in customer service and being directed to the website, I was finally connected with a rep. Language barrier prevented me from communicating, but I was finally made my self understood. I was calling about a service call that the company providing the service also had left without completing the repair. I was told that I would have to call the company to determine when the repair would be completed. I told the rep that the company never answers their phone, either. They were unhelpful, refusing to call the company for me. Thanks AHS.

Put in a $75 service request for an electrical problem. I should have known this was a scam by the fact that they take your money before they even have someone set up to do the work. They said they will hire someone in our area and that electrician will contact us within a couple days. We waited a week, no one contacted us, no one was assigned, so we decided to cancel the service and get our $75 refund. We filed for the refund on 3/18/19 and were told it takes 14-21 business days to receive it. I don't care how big the company is, for a waiting period that long to complete putting money back where you took it from is ridiculous (this was the second sign of the scam).

We waited 21 business days, no refund, so we called AHS customer service on 4/15/19. They read me a scripted line of "We can see you have a refund of $75 and are not sure why it hasn't been processed yet. Let me cancel that and put a new request in for you." We told them not to cancel it because we already did the waiting and wanted answers to why no progress was being made. They said "I don't know, all we can do is resubmit the request and contact our escalation department to fast track this request". So how long is fast tracking? Another 14-21 business days.

So we waited ANOTHER 21 business days (over 2 months total) for someone at AHS to do 1 hour's worth of work MAX. We called again on 5-28-19 after another failed attempt. We explained the entire situation with the customer service and you will never guess what "the only thing I can do on my end is cancel this request and submit another one". We were unbelievable mad and figured they were trying to have us just give up on it. We asked to speak with the accounting department, escalation department, and a manager. We asked to be copied on the email conversations they had with these departments. We were told to all of these that they cannot do that because "company policy". We asked what would be different for this submission compared to the first two and they replied "You will just have to trust me". Absolute scam. Still no refund. It has become personal. I'm not going to give up on this. 100% avoid this confirmed scam.

Tried to buy insurance plan online. Didn't get any email confirmation. Called them after few days to see whether it went through or not. Waited 12 minutes (!!!) on the line just to get a representative. Upon checking he said that it takes a month to activate the account and even then another 10 days to process. I said what if I have a problem now. His genius answer was- "We don't insure broken appliances...." Make a long story short- horrible service, as I experienced while I was renting a unit and my landlord had their insurance. You wait for hours every time when you need to order a repair. Then the repair people cancel on you without talking to you. If you can avoid or find a better company- pls do.

We had them for about a year. They did not send out competent repair people at all. Issues were never fixed properly. The biggest problem however was when we moved and tried to cancel! They will not let you cancel! We spent over two days trying to talk to someone. We were either left on hold or hung up on. As I write this I am once again sitting on hold trying to talk to someone as my previous call was disconnected. They kept asking me if I was sure I wanted to cancel...YES!!! I don't live at that address anymore!!! WOW. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY. We had automatic bill pay set up and instead of cancelling as they were suppose to they billed us! We turned off the automatic payment but trying to get this straightened out and our policy canceled has proven impossible.

I wish that I had read more reviews before buying this home service. I was trying to get my washer repaired and was told that I could either get cash in lieu or wait for part. I opted to wait for part. 6 weeks l was still waiting for part. I was then told that I could still get cash in lieu if I purchased a washer and provided proof of purchase. So I did. But when I called the company, I was told that part had been received weeks ago. No one ever called me.

So now I am expected to cancel the purchase and pay any nonrefundable charges and also since part is available, I can no longer get the cash in lieu. Seems one department has no idea what the other is doing. I spent most of yesterday on the phone with all of them. I am cancelling the service as soon as I can and staying with my original purchase. I will cut my losses and try to find a better warranty company. AHS is not it. I will also share my experience with my friends.

I had a shower head that dripped. So I called AHS to send out a plumber. The plumber came out and turned off the water and removed shower handle. The handle turns the water on/off - hot/cold. Plumber said he would update AHS that he needed parts and he would be back when he got the ok. Two days later I noticed water dripping from ceiling below the shower. Moving forward still no shower and ceiling is not fixed. Calls to plumbing service, Sundance Services, has not yield any results and the same with calls to AHS. So I’ve been left to fend for myself. Have a plumber coming in to fix shower and I will do the ceiling. Thanks AHS for providing this space. Maybe you will see this review and Fix the issue.

We have had American Home Shield for the past 5 years and have only used them twice. So I have paid in over $4,000 and got a motor for my AC replaced and a new latch for our dishwasher. This morning I had a leak in our water heater and had to make the call. I paid the $75 service fee and had an individual come out this afternoon to take a look. The water heater needed to be replaced because the tank ruptured. Now comes the fun part.

After the paperwork was filed by the plumber American Home Warranty called me. Because the tank was installed in 2006 it doesn't meet the current code. This forced me to pay a $900 bill. Basically, they will purchase a new heater but won't cover the required updates to install the purchased heater. Everyone should be aware of this if you own an older home. The money you pay them annually might not cover your expenses.

But the thermostat doesn't stay where we set it. It goes back to a high number then the air doesn't go on. If it says the temperature is set on 85, we keep bringing it down. The first time we ever had to deal with American Home Shield sealed the deal for us and we've been with them 17 of the 18 years we've owned the home. Our water heater was leaking, and I went on the website of AHS and put in a work order request. Navigating through the website was very easy and I always have a very good experience with them. The rep said we would be contacted within the next 24-48 business hours and the contractor called me that morning about 20 minutes before he got here. It was very timely and he knew exactly what the issue was. They had to replace the water heater and it has been perfect. AHS has always been excellent and it was a great experience.

It seems like there’s a lot of communication issues between the contractor and American Home Shield on what’s covered and what’s not covered. We had a faucet that needed repairing but they couldn’t get the part because they’re not manufactured anymore. Someone is also saying it’s not covered even though you can look up the contract and it says faucets are covered. American Home Shield is not giving me straight answers on why it’s not covered and no one can seem to get to the bottom of it. We put in the work order a week ago so our faucet has been down since then and there's still no solution. It just doesn’t seem like there’s a real urgency to fix our faucet. The plumber was fine though. We’ve had Whitney Plumbing come out before and they’ve been great.

The process for submitting a claim is pretty easy but there are some issues that could still be improved on. The topics are very generic. We had pipes leak so we selected that but it’s not the copper pipe. It was our braided pipe connecting to our faucet. But there wasn't an extra input comments box so the plumber can be aware of what he’s getting into. He doesn’t know if he’s in a basement or just under a sink. There are different parts and pieces, and I wish I could give them more information. It’s really vague which kinda sucks.

We bought our home back at the end of November but didn't physically live in it until just recently. We had an issue with the gas water heater and made a claim for it with AHS. It turned out, the gas was maybe turned off as well as the pilot light so we didn’t know that it wasn’t functioning. I made my service request with AHS online. The site seems to be okay. I am pretty computer-literate so it’s not difficult learning where to look for things, how to point to them and access them.

A gentleman from BB Lewis Plumbing came out and made sure that the pilot light was lit. He told us to let him know if the water didn't get heated. Sure enough, it wasn’t heating properly so he came back a second time to make sure that it was functioning properly. This was the second time we did a claim. The first time was with the air conditioning unit. An electrical connection outside had gotten triggered that we didn’t have any knowledge about. A guy solved that and the unit started working properly.

After my recent claim was done, I can now take a nice shower. My dishwasher works properly. I can take grease off my pots and pans. That's is a big deal. When you don’t have hot water or haven't had it for a while, you just think, "How did we ever exist?" Now I can steam my water kettle and heat up water to do what I need to do. Overall, it was wise of the previous seller to initiate this opportunity to have AHS. I have since heard from a number of other people that has the warranty how thankful they were. We’re just learning how to make the best use of ours when we need to.

You put in what the issue is, pay your upfront cost, and within 24 hours, the place would contact you about setting up a scheduled time to come and fix it. The only thing is if the homeowner pays their upfront cost and the contractor doesn’t contact them, there could be a better way to get your money back because you pay for a service that they didn’t do.

But submitting a request online has been the best. As for the contractors that the send out, Sears was the worst while everybody else has been pretty good.

Recently, I submitted a claim for our AC that wasn't cooling and submitting it online was was one of the easiest experiences I had. They sent out Integrity Air and they were absolutely wonderful, too. We live in a very rural area, so I’ve found in the past that it’s very hard to find contractors that AHS has available for this area. It makes it harder for those rural communities but it’s improving in the last three years, mainly because I recommend them all the time to people. So, I am an advocate for them. I’ve even Facebooked and told people to make sure they get a home warranty because it’s so important and can save them a lot of money. We had an AC unit that was totally replaced because it didn't work and we paid $75 for that. It was amazing. So, the warranty paid for itself and then some.

I had a plumbing issue and at first, I thought it was my dishwasher because it’s 15 years old. It was on Memorial Day and my sink was stopped up. Then, I noticed that there was water standing in the bottom of the dishwasher. When I started trying to plunge the sink and drain the dishwasher, it had water flowing out the bottom of it and it went all over my kitchen. So, I called it in as a dishwasher issue. American Home Shield sent somebody out and the contractor said that it was the sink. It had a clog and if the sink doesn't drain, the dishwasher won't drain.

AHS sent somebody else out with a Roto-Rooter. He snaked it quickly and everything works now. I asked what it was and he said that he didn’t really get anything out. It was probably just a buildup, which made sense because I've been here almost 27 years and we've never had anything snaked around here. It was very simple. The second guy was here 10 minutes and everything was fixed. The company that AHS gave me was Lone Star Water and they couldn’t get here until Thursday so, I called back. Lone Star even said that I might wanna call AHS and see if they can get somebody out sooner. I held so long on the phone with American Home Shield, then it disconnected. I gave a number but they never called me back. So, I called Lone Star and told them that I couldn't even get a hold of American Home Shield. So, I'm gonna keep their appointment.

AHS is very difficult to get a hold of, and you get passed around. It didn't use to be that way because we've had American Home Shield almost 27 years. Also, it seems like their plumbing is always backed up. They would say that they can get here three or four days away and then, they would give you a window of 8:00 in the morning till 5:30 at night. The last problem I had, it was my double-oven, and the contractor was a jerk. I told him that I was trying to work and to just give me a time. He gave me 8 o'clock to 3 o'clock. The plumber was just ugly. So, when the people with his company finally came out, they said a lot of people had trouble with him and he has had a lot of complaints.

AHS’ customer service is lacking but once the contractor finally gets here, it seems like everything's okay. AHS is trying to make everything automated and don't have time to talk to you. They would rather you file it online and not even call them. They make sure to tell you that you have that option. While you're holding for 10 hours, they say that several times.

The customer service is not good anymore but for us who has an older home, it has worked well because things break and they've always managed. My double-oven broke a few months ago and AHS sent somebody out. The man said that AHS was just gonna get me a new oven. I thought, "American Home Shield is just not gonna give me a new oven." So, I waited a week. AHS called me and said that they were gonna send him back out and he's gonna try to get the oven door opened to get the model number. So, he came back out and got the model number. AHS tried to order the circuit panel but it was discontinued. AHS said that they were gonna do a nationwide search for this part. So, we waited another week but the part was not available. So then, they called me up and I was at work, so it was the voicemail. They had some options for me and my oven.

AHS was either going to give me $365 towards a new oven or they were going to come out, send their appliance guy back out, and they were gonna remove the circuit panel, ship it off and have it rebuilt which would take five to seven weeks. I've already been without an oven for a month so, I called them back and I said that I am almost a 27-year customer of American Home Shield. So, with that being said, I want to tell them what my options are for my double-oven and that I wanted them to tell me which one was acceptable because their options were unacceptable.

The lady quickly said that they were gonna send me an email and would let me pick out a double-oven. That sounded acceptable to me but my point was, I had to go piecemeal so I waited for them. When that was all said and done, I was out without my double-oven for two months. Money-wise, the warranty pays off for us because we have an older home. The reason we have the insurance is to save us money and not coming out-of-pocket, which is the good part. However, their customer service at their facility and the timeliness are not good. It gets very frustrating.

I had three toilets in my house that I could hear running water, and my water bill went up and doubled in the last couple of months so I knew there was an issue. So, I called American Home Shield to check my toilets and fix what needed to be fixed. The first one that I talked to did not get the order right when it was submitted to the company that they contacted. I had to call them back and get that corrected because the company was initially only gonna come out for one toilet. They did that, and then everything was fine. The company that came out was very professional, neat and clean.

They called me the same day and they were able to come out a day or two later 'cause I wasn't gonna be home, but they could have come out the next day. They were quick and really good. We needed a new coil put in so they changed the coil. American Home Shield did a good job. I was calling in another claim 'cause now the other one went out.

I submitted a claim through the online service request when I was having electrical issues with my pool pump. American Home Shield’s website was really easy to navigate. On the website, they give you a notice that you should expect a phone call to schedule within 24 hours. I submitted the service request in the evening and by 8:00 the next morning, the contractor was calling me to schedule. I’m usually having to hunt down who American Home Shield assigned my pool to for three or four days because they don’t call me. This was the first time I had a contractor on the pool who called me promptly to schedule. The tech called on Friday and I told him that it was a holiday weekend and we could just schedule it on Tuesday. But he asked if I would have a problem if he made it on Monday. I told him it was a holiday but he said his wife was out of town so he was going to work. That was good for me because I wouldn't have to take time off work.

He had me send him a picture of my pool serial numbers and model numbers of the equipment, so that he could have spare parts on hand before he got there. And then he called me because he had time on Sunday, and asked if he could stop by and see if he could fix it real quick instead of waiting. So, he showed up earlier than he thought he would on a holiday weekend with spare parts already in his truck for my system. That is physically unheard of in my experience with the pool contractors that American Home Shield usually sends over. We haven’t had any more issues since the service. I was so pleasantly surprised. I absolutely love this contractor, and I’ve recommended American Home Shield to my neighbor.

I thought I was having a problem with the diverter inside the shower and the claim was handled excellently. I guess the people that I bought the house from had the diverter set for low hot water so I couldn’t get really hot water out of it for my kids. So when the contractor from Hers and His Plumbing came down and looked at it, he had to change the handle. He adjusted it and it now gives me the pure hot water that I wanted. It was excellent service.

I also had a claim at my home in Tivoli Drive. We had had a new countertop put on but after about 11 months, two of the switches weren’t working. So I called and American Home Shield sent General Electric down because it was a General Electric product. When the technician came on the 4th, he didn’t have the right parts for it so he had to order the parts and come back on the 11th. But they had sent the wrong parts. Then he came back on the 17th and fixed this. It was probably just a mix-up in part numbers and he did fix it. I'm very happy with Home Shield. As far as the two calls that I've made, things are all working perfectly.

I’ve been with American Home Shield ever since I bought my house back in 2003 and for the most part, I’m satisfied with them but my biggest complaint about them is the customer service. The last time I called, I got somebody that was from here but these other people, I don’t know where they’re from, and you can hardly understand them. It’s terrible that when you call, you have to keep saying, “Excuse me. What did you say? What did you say?” If you ask to speak to a manager, you can never talk to a manager.

The first time I had the contractor come out for the AC, the air wasn’t coming on. You could hear it click on but it wasn’t blowing. So, he checked it out but he couldn’t find anything so he put in a new thermostat. He had to come back out on Monday because it wasn’t working at all. He told me it was a relay switch and that they had to order it. So, I’m waiting for that now. It’s still a work in progress. He put one on there but it makes my air run on a continuous basis. You can’t turn it off. The only thing that turns it off is going out to the box. I turned it off because I can’t afford that light bill that’s getting ready to come to me. I’m okay with American Home Shield because if I wasn’t, I would have been gone.

This company is fine if you have small problems like your ice maker or garbage disposal. But try them out with something major. I challenge you right now to call and ask for a Manager. You will be put on hold and no one will ever answer. This happens repeatedly. I have gotten No resolution. My heater went out. And to get it replaced I have to pay $1,000 to get modifications done. I checked with the vendor they sent and the vendor told me that because of the system they chose I would have to pay $1,000. If they bought something comparable then I wouldn’t have to pay for modifications. If I wanted to cash out I would only get $700.

I called 7 times and each time I was lied to and promised they would get something comparable but to date I have no heater. Consumer Affairs can you help me? I’m still on hold right now. And the person that answers will be so nice but they are trained to treat their customers this way. It’s the only thing that explains this happening to me repeatedly.

Again call them right now and test my theory if you don’t believe me. Ask for a Manager because you are not happy. And I called the service number for status and say yes that the technician has already been to the house. And one time that I did get through the agent seemed determined to help me. She gave me a number to call and guess what. It was a wrong number. So deal with these people only for very small stuff. For major items they are going to try to swindle you to their benefit alone. Not at all caring about the customer. I also told them that it was the vendor that said I wouldn’t need to pay for modifications if they chose something more comparable. And she called the vendor to verify this and that is when I was given the wrong number to call. I’m disappointed greatly in this company. The number I called 800-827-4636.

This took 3 weeks of continuous calls. He insisted that the replacement must match the efficiency level of the existing unit or to replace the coils. Even though they knew that the coils would take 3 weeks to arrive, they chose to replace the coils rather than install an Air Handler that the provider had in stock.

After they arrived, it took a week of calls from me to continuously assert that I would accept the. It is now June 3, 2019 and the AC was installed today. The provider explained what they did. Updated on 06/17/2019: On June 3, 2019 I forwarded a complaint to Consumer Affairs on excessive wait times at American Home Shield Warranty Company for service delays which was sent to AHS 6/4/2019 and responded to almost immediately saying they were sorry to hear that I had experience trouble with their system. AHS said that they would like to speak with me concerning this problem.

For almost a week I have being trying to find this AHS person and cannot. I finally got through to AHS customer Service today at 10-30am after waiting on hold for 15 minutes. I played phone-tag again for another 15 minutes until reaching someone who could not help me. I was informed that they do not by company policy reimburse anyone for services used outside their scope of operation. Surprisingly, kitchen sink stoppage does not warrant emergency service. How a home warranty company can make such a ludicrous determination is beyond me and unthinkable.

Our kitchen was entirely put out of service not only from a utilization part but for health reasons. We would have spend four days awaiting their repair service and eating out as we would have had no place to clean the dishes or run the dishwasher. My wife and I are both of advanced age at 80 and 89 respectively and having no decent restaurants in our vicinity would have posed a problem.

Upon hearing of this decision I asked to speak with a supervisor and the representative went to get one, only to return in 10 minutes to say that one was not available and that one would call me shortly. I am not holding my breath since no one has contacted my in two weeks. My future intentions as regards AHS and service companies that have such restrictive policies is to avoid them and alert everyone through Social Media that they should use extreme caution when doing business with companies such as this that in a few short years have dropped service from their vocabulary and inserted greed!

Updated on 06/08/2019: Since I was understandably irate, I informed Consumer Affairs in Florida who then contacted AHS for an answer. I also called and emailed AHS to elicit some information as to why these unreasonable repair delays seem to be a standard practice. Previously, we had issues with a poor response from AHS in March 2017. I mention this because even then they did not respond with either emails, telephone or letter all of which I had dispatched to their offices. In this latest incident, the firm did respond to Consumer Affairs as willing to discuss problem with me but provided no information as to how one is to find a living person on the other end of their telephone/email source. I am once again faced with calling endlessly to find that I cannot reach anyone who can make a decision on this matter.

Original Review: On 5/7/2019 our kitchen sink backed up and both sinks filled with water/debris. I called AHS immediately as it was Friday evening and we were having guests for dinner and could not cancel our get together at this last moment, and was told that AHS would notify a company to repair our sinks. I called the company which was 40 miles away and they said that Tuesday would be the first time that they could come out. I called AHS and they confirmed that owing to the time of the week that would be the contracted time. I immediately hired another contractor who repaired the sinks early the next day.

Now, my indictment is not only with AHS or the other Home Warranty companies but in this day and age wouldn't you think that repair times to customers could be shortened somewhat? Incidentally, this is the second time AHS has "failed us," and caused us to consider cancelling our contract but lo and behold, all service companies have the same response times so something should be done in the consumer's interest to shorten these times through a state-wide agreement. I await your reply. Thank you. Roger **

I've had great interactions with all the contractors except for one. That was about three years ago. We had two faucets go bad and after the guy came out and diagnosed it, it took him almost three weeks to come back and make the repair. Then last year, one of my air conditioning units went out and we suffered in the heat for about three weeks. That was horrible service. It wasn't American Home Shield's issue. It was the service tech company. But American Home Shield needs to be a little bit more assertive with some of the technicians there. In cases like what I had with the air conditioner or the faucet, they need to stay on top of the technician and make sure they do the repair in a timely manner.

In each case, I also called the company and they always said that the service has been improved and that the technicians should have been more timely with the repair. But it didn't do me any good when I didn't have water in the kitchen or when I didn't have air in the house. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield highly. It's very easy to submit a claim. I go online into the website, call up my account and indicate what kind of service I need then I'm done. It's easier than going through the phone. When the AC unit malfunctioned, a technician came out and made a repair on it. It took him a while for him to come back out. But that's the nature of the game with air conditioning.

A contractor came out for the refrigerator and looked it over. I think the repairs were more than the value of the unit so it was just replaced. American Home Shield had sent out some other people before that, but it was never really fixed. It kept going out. But this guy who came out was great. He knew what he was doing. He seemed a lot more knowledgeable. He got on a call with Samsung and was walking through it. He was courteous and friendly. Everything’s been great. Every interaction I’ve had with American Home Shield has been great too.

Thus far, having AHS has been a good experience. One time, my air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air and so I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. I was told that their contractor would normally call within 24 to 48 hours. However, they didn't call. I called the contractor during his business hours and left a message to have him call me back. Still, when he arrived he was very nice. That time, it had rained so he was very careful when he went in the backyard and put little booties over his shoes so as not to bring mud into my house. I have a heart issue so I can't be in temperatures that are too high or too cold. It's really important that my air conditioner or my heater works. Since the repair, my AC has been working.

I made claims with American Home Shield for my air conditioner and water heater. I did it online and it was simple. The contractors sent by American Home Shield were both great. Things were done accordingly, but they made sure that I knew what was going on. And they answered a lot of questions. I'm not a handy type person, so I had a few questions on how the process and things were gonna go. The only thing is after my water heater was already completed and done, sometimes I would get the text notifications after. The contractor already came and left, and then I'm getting a text from American Home Shield telling me that he's on his way. And even after I got my new water heater installed, two days later, I got another text saying that the water guy was on his way. Maybe that needs to be looked into.

Also, when I made my claim for the water heater, it was a Friday. And so, the timeframe for the contractor to reach back out is within 24 hours. I went ahead and reached out myself to them because I knew likely they were gonna be closed for the weekend, and I wanted to go ahead and get in contact with somebody so that I could be on the books, instead of waiting for them to call me back. As far as what they cover for the air conditioner coolant, the process with that can be better. They only pay $10 per pound. And I had to get two pounds of coolant. If it's found that there needs to be coolant, the contractor told me that AHS' process is within 60 days. If it's still an issue after 60 days, that's when they come out and check for a leak. Why wouldn't they check for a leak initially while they're there? What's the purpose of waiting up until 60 days for them to come back out and check for the leak. That does not make sense to me.

American Home Shield originally scheduled me for another company, but they didn't call back within the 24-hour timeframe. It was a weekend, but I definitely needed my washing machine. The drum part had completely come unhinged inside of my washer. I called back American Home Shield, and they hooked me up with All Brands, and then they called me on Memorial Day to set up the appointment.

I started Googling All Brands, and they had a lot of really bad reviews, so I was pretty nervous. But I was very pleasantly surprised. They came in, and their techs were nicely dressed and well-kept, unlike some techs that come out to your house and reek of cigarette smoke and look like they just rolled out of bed. The tech from All Brands explained everything to me. He tried to fix it, but he didn't have the right size part, so they ordered it for me. And then another gentleman came in the day and fixed it for me. I haven't had any problems with the washing machine thus far. I was very happy with the service. Every time I've used American Home Shield, I've had no problems.

Our unit froze because we had our AC temp down too low, so AHS sent a technician and they did the refrigerant to solve the issue. It's really easy to file a claim with AHS on their website. Most of the contractors of AHS were super nice and they did a good job, but they asked to use my bathroom. And I always thought that was kind of a no-no, like you're in someone's house doing work, you shouldn't be using their bathroom.

I'm having a plumber come out today to look at my toilets and they're acting kind of funny. I called because my shower is draining really slow right now. So, I was like, "Okay. These plumbers are already coming out here, but I don't know what they're gonna do. If they're gonna say, 'We can't service your shower either because it wasn't on the request.'" And so, I called the number on the American Home Shield site, and there wasn't really an option to speak with someone directly, where I could ask, "Hey, these two plumbers are coming out here for two of my toilets, which is what I filed their service request for. But if they have to do something with the drain in my shower, will you also cover that?"

There were four options to choose when you call the actual American Home Shield number, and the one was about payment, one was about current service, and I can't remember the other two, but none of the choices was, "If you would like to speak to a live rep, please press 5." They have a chat feature on there which I didn't use. I just ended up hanging up. But being able to talk to someone directly would be good.

I usually go online and log into the website of AHS when I have a claim. For the most part, their website is pretty basic and it’s not too difficult to get through. It's also easy to use. After submitting the claim, they usually send a contractor out within 24 to 48 hours and they are always on time. Recently, I submitted a claim for my heater and they sent out Airtronics who is one of their better AC contractors. I personally investigated them and said that this is the company I want when I have an AC or heating problem. In fact, for my recent claim on my heater, everything was fine after they repaired it. There was an initial wiring issue that was missed, but they came out and fixed that. All in all, AHS has been easy to work with and I haven’t had very many difficulties with anything. I’d also tell others that I use them and I would recommend them.

I tell the rep what the problem is and they tell me that they'll get somebody out for me. Everything seems to be all set up for me, which is so nice.

Recently, I called AHS to file a claim for our refrigerator which was leaking. When it got really cold, it clogged up a drain. The contractor cleaned it out and it worked fine. Also, he has worked on several of my appliances and he has gotten everything working perfectly. I was very pleased with him. One thing though is that I have to pay $100 to call somebody out and I think that's too much. I get it though because I can't afford to have a major catastrophe in my house which makes AHS' service call fee very affordable. But if something breaks, that 100 bucks is gonna be hard to get together. Other than that, AHS is doing a fabulous job just keeping up.

So just in case, because it can be anything, I put the order in to American Home Shield. The service tech called me ahead of time and made sure that somebody was gonna be there. He came, checked it out and it turned out to be the capacitor and got it replaced. It's a little better now but it's still not quite getting up to where it was before. So, I'm wondering if it's also low on Freon but as far as getting it working at least, it's going and it’s better than broken.

From a historical perspective, living at the house for 10 years, I know that they could be colder but I also have another room now that I've built out in the garage. It may be that. Maybe I have to upgrade the HVAC system to push out more air but as far as fixing the actual problem, they got it done quickly. I'm satisfied because my renters didn't leave and if they're happy, I'm happy. I recommend AHS to everybody.

We called American Home Shield and explained to them we had a drip that happened, and they sent someone straight out and had it fixed. I've never had any problems with submitting claims but getting a response for heating and air conditioning units or anything, especially if they’re busy during the summertime, has been a little slow. But I was able to use my own people, call someone out and get them out there and was reimbursed. So, that wasn’t an issue either.

The heating and air conditioning services have been great. We used Hospitality and the people are just easy to work with. They explain everything very well. The plumber was the same way. He was very courteous, on time, and took care of the problem right away. The only issue I have with American Home Shield sometimes is being on hold too long. I had a bad experience when I finally needed American Home Shield other than some ticky-tacky little stuff that they worked on before. This was a significant air conditioning problem. And I went to their vendor and the vendor didn't perform, and so I hold American Home Shield responsible. But then, American Home Shield did not timely approve the work that needed to be done. And so, I canceled it, and I thought it was terrible.

The air conditioning wasn't cooling the way it was supposed to. And on a very timely basis, the company came out and said, "Yes, this would need a new evaporator coil." But then, somehow within that air conditioning company, it never got through. And the air conditioning company after we complained, sent out somebody two days later to do the same thing the guy had already done. He had turned my air conditioning off because he was worried I'd burn off the coil. It turned out it didn't have air going. Today would have been the first day I wouldn't have had air conditioning if I stayed with American Home Shield.

AHS called me yesterday and said, "Oh, we have approved your claim." But I told them I already quit permanently just Tuesday night. The contractor didn't get their communications right because they never sent the information to American Home Shield until Sunday night after the second guy came out. When I cancelled, I just got the form letter then got the cancellation fee, and I want six months of my payments refunded. So, I would probably be calling them today or tomorrow to see about that.

I called it in and AHS said that someone was gonna call within 24 hours. I had to call back because the first time I called they did not put down both units. They only put down one. I had to make sure that they had both units on there.

The contractor was okay. He explained to me what they were gonna do and had me sign some form as far as payment. If I didn't sign the form, then they couldn't do whatever was needed to be done. It was as if I had to accept whatever the charge was for replacing whatever. I didn't know what it was until they actually finished, but I had to sign that form upfront, and I didn't like that.

My unit downstairs leaks a lot, so we have like a little bucket underneath and I don't know where that's coming from. But it's just a little water coming from the AC pipe that comes from the house. I called for a follow-up, but no one ever called me back. So, I was like "Forget it," because I wasn't gonna pay anything else. But American Home Shield does what they're supposed to do, so I don't fault them. The miscommunication was the only issue that I have with them. So I would still recommend it. The last time I called them apart from this claim was three years ago and it has been good.

He went out and got me a new faucet. When my furnace went out, it was one of the coldest times where I live. I had to wait quite a while and I didn’t have heat. And they didn’t do like they did this time. They said that I didn’t have to wait and that they'd get somebody out immediately to fix that.

Total rip off. Sent a tech to work on HVAC. After a 3 day wait this guy shows up up, spends less than 30 minutes and declares we need an electrician to fix the problem. Electrician, not AHS shows up and in 5 minutes finds out it was not an electrical problem but the motor in the air handler was burnt out. I could not get in touch with anyone from the AC repair company on a Friday afternoon, despite their website said open until 6PM. So I had another company come and fix the problem. Total cost $100 AHS, $129 Electrician, $570 Air Handler motor repair and cool air. I don't know whether these guys are a complete bunch of idiots or thieves or both. I submitted all the documentation to AHS and Total Air over two weeks ago, crickets...

I have been a customer of the concern for some time. In the past their customer service has been acceptable. Several months ago, I noticed that the water pressure in the home was becoming very low. I checked the pressure outside the house and the pressure was good. I obviously had a plumbing problem, the pressure regulator or a leak could be the problem. I called customer service and was told if no leak visible at a faucet, they would not help me. Finally the pressure inside the home dropped to a thin stream. I called a plumber and he replaced the pressure regulator which did not help.

Finally the problem was located at the water softener. I contacted American Shield and was told that the plumbing, garbage disposal, etc was covered but not the water softener. I understand that, I feel they should have helped when I reported the problem initially, I feel that they had a responsibility to help with the plumber replacing the pressure regulator and determining the problem with the water problem.

    Original Review: June 2, 2019

I have experienced nothing but exceptionally bad customer service with this company. Supposedly, their coverage is fantastic, or at least that is what I was told when I bought my home back in September 2018, but I have yet to experience anything that has been actually covered. In November 2018, the pipes under my kitchen sink corroded and basically crumbled like paper. I called American Home Shield and let them know that I had a leak and that the pipes were corroded. The woman I spoke with was very condescending and told me that leaks are covered in my policy, but corrosion was not. So, because I was an educated person that knew the leak was due to corrosion, they would not send someone out to fix it. It was a fantastic Thanksgiving, let me tell you.

My next experience was May 2019 when we first turned our Air Conditioning on and found that it was not blowing cold air. Someone came out and found a leak, repaired it and then let me know that I would have to pay $500 out of pocket because AHS does not cover refrigerant. Two and a half days later, my A/C stopped blowing cold yet again. I called the gentleman who did the prior work and he said that I needed to contact AHS to order a recall for service and that he would get back out right away. I called AHS and they told me that I would have to pay an additional $75 dollars for the service order. I explained to them the situation and they said because I clicked "Pre-Season Check" instead of "A/C Service" that I had to pay AGAIN. I tried to explain the situation 100 different ways. I spoke to two different women who were extremely unhelpful, condescending, and refused to understand or even care about what I was saying. I was extremely frustrated and angered to tears.

I have a 3-year-old daughter, it is 90 degrees, I just need my air conditioning to work! "Nope, sorry, you clicked the wrong button, ma’am." Even though it would have been EXACTLY the same $75 if I clicked the "right" button. I just dished out $500 to get my A/C working, it lasted TWO DAYS and now you want me to pay you another $75. I finally broke down and submitted my service order and paid the extra $75, I mean, after all, I would really like to avoid my daughter having a heat stroke!

When the request confirmation came, the service was set up with a completely different company. This is the exact situation I was trying to avoid by ordering a recall. The women I spoke with, unfortunately, did not care at all about what is best for me as their client. It is quite obvious that they are after every dollar they can rip out of a single mother’s hands! I will definitely be looking for a different Home Warranty Company when my warranty is up. They might have great coverage for some things, but in my book customer service is everything.

When I spoke to the lady from ConsumerAffairs to give a review I told her that I was very happy with the way American Home Shield was handling the complaints that I had. They did bend over backward to make sure that I was happy. It was the people they used to do the work that I was not happy with. American Home Shield stayed on top of everything until my issues were resolved.

    Original Review: June 2, 2019

I had used American Home Shield before for my own home and we ended up getting a new air conditioner, furnace and some new appliances, so we dropped it. Then we bought a condo out in Colorado, and I thought it would be a good thing to have ‘cause we don’t live there. In the early part of May, we made a claim for the dishwasher and a tech guy came out, and he said we needed a plumber. So, we put in a claim for a plumber. A couple of different people came out and they never fixed the problem. One plumber even told my son who lives there to go out and buy two toilets and to call him directly. He’d give us a discount to put them in, which I didn’t like at all.

I called and complained because nobody ever told us what the problem was to begin with. They just said we needed a plumber. American Home Shield bent over backwards to try to make this right. They got it resolved to where they put in two new toilets. Then my son called and said the disposal was not working and it was backing up food. Nothing was resolved with it. There was still water in the bottom of the dishwasher after it was repaired, so they couldn't use it.

It cost us for an air conditioning person to come out and fix our AC then it broke that night. American Home Shield sent somebody out and the technician started a fire on our breaker box. An electrician was sent out to fix that. AHS then sent the air conditioner person again and that person told us we should not fix the AC because in January there is going to be a change over from Freon so fixing the AC would be a total waste. If it breaks again, I would be taxed for changing to a new system because if I repaired it, the AC wouldn’t be up to code. I got a second opinion thinking maybe we really could save this AC. I paid for it. The guy who came agreed that it should not be fixed.

On Sunday I called American Home Shield and had one discussion with a supervisor. He agreed not to get the AC fixed and to do a cash-out, but they won’t tell me how much. They would tell me on Monday. But they didn’t call me on Monday and Tuesday. I called them on both days. On Tuesday, it became 48 hours instead of 24 hours. I want an answer. I live in San Antonio. Today it’s raining and it's not that bad. But it’s been about 11 days that I haven't had air conditioning. I don’t even want AHS to be responsible for the air conditioning anymore. I’m quite willing to become responsible for it myself. I have a daughter who is very good at tweeting and if AHS doesn't call me today and tell me how much the cash-out price is and it’s not reasonable, then we’re gonna start tweeting.

AHS has been very good. Though some of the companies that they have used are not the best, they've been very professional. Also, when we've called to say "Hey this isn't working", they've sent out some other contractor. We had a furnace replaced in March but then the contractor who installed the furnace had to come back a couple of times because it wasn't installed properly. That was in March and we're in Chicago so it was cold.

More recently, it got here and we turned the air conditioning that's associated with that furnace on and it didn't work. So, I had to have somebody new come out. It turned out that the people who had installed the furnace had hooked up the AC unit incorrectly. So, the new contractor was able to fix it. But then, it took three and a half hours to figure out that the furnace had been hooked up improperly. Also, I ended up paying two call-out fees.

I called American Home Shield after I ended up paying the $75 to have the AC unit diagnosed and their reps said that the $75 is for the call out and there was nothing they could do about it. I could try to get it back from the company that installed the furnace but then that's hard to do. Still, AHS has been fine overall. Though once or twice there has been a contractor who is less than ideal, their people have been very helpful. They’re knowledgeable and they really try to understand the issue. We've been happy.

My thermostat wasn’t working and I didn't even turn the air off because I couldn’t see the numbers. So I called American Home Shield and Total Air Care finally came on Friday. But then the lines were frozen so the technician couldn't check the rest of the unit. Then I called back to American Home Shield on Monday to see if the guy had turned in the report so American Home Shield could make sure they are sending somebody right back out because it was 100 degrees in Louisiana the whole weekend so the lines were all defrosted by Sunday. I called again yesterday and someone said they spoke to Total Care. They were supposed to call me yesterday evening and let me know what time they were coming but they never called.

I have been uncomfortable since Tuesday last week so it made a week yesterday. And I’m going out of town this weekend so I'm gonna have to find somebody to open my house to them whenever they decide to come. So I have not had a good experience. This left a bitter taste in my mouth because I’m a school assistant and I just got off of work from working in the school but on my first week off, I’ve been living in this extreme heat. I had to end up trying to find another place to sleep at night because the heat was unbearable.

When you have a national company like American Home Shield, you shouldn’t just have one company that you’re working with for a whole region. I asked the representative why they don't have other local providers to contract with. They're a large company and the weather has been hot every summer in Louisiana and the Southern states. So I don't see why they don't have more companies and he didn't have an answer for me. They need to start looking into stuff like that. From what I heard, American Home Shield has the most number of customers out of all the home warranty companies. I checked the rating before I went with them and I’ve heard good things about them from other people and I believe in giving people chances but this is ridiculous. I already paid for this month but I’ll probably end up dropping them after.

I have recommended American Home Shield to people. Submitting claims through them is sometimes alright. If they have a high volume of calls, it's hard. You get through, but you get a long waiting time. Doing it online is easy though. I've had them send out Choice Plumbing and I asked them not to send them last time because one of their employees stole something out of my basement. They sent them anyway. I don't blame the company or American Home Shield for an employee stealing because they don't know they did it. But every time they came after that, we just watched them. We never let the technician alone in the basement again. My son is a mechanic and he has expensive tools down there. Choice Plumbing replaced my hot water heater. American Home Shield paid of it and I just paid the $75 fee. And I got a nice and expensive water heater. It's a gigantic one that's digital for 75 bucks.

However, I'm having a problem now and this is the first time I've had this kind of problem where I had to wait. I called them a couple of weeks ago over my air conditioning and it's still not fixed. It would run but it wouldn't get cold. LLC Plumbing came out and the technician was a very old gentleman. He said that my coil above my furnace unit is leaking and I lost all my Freon, and it would take a week before American Home Shield would get back to me. It's been a week. That wasn't true when Choice replaced my hot water heater. I'm gonna call them today and find out if they okayed for me to get that fixed.

We are in storm central area then I heard what I thought was hale on our furnace plenum and it was too loud. My husband went outside and it was our air-conditioner. We shut it off and my husband tried to fix it and get the wire out of the blade to keep it from sharding out. We filed a claim to AHS then a gentleman came right on time and he couldn’t have been nicer. He fixed it and it works great and we couldn’t be happier.

There is a company named Action Mechanical that AHS sent out when we first had our water heater went out. Two gentlemen came and took all the information they needed. They took pictures and said that their boss would call us with an estimate. The boss called and he was a real smug, smart, nasty man. He told us that the money that the insurance company would give them is not gonna be enough. We’re gonna need $1,450 more. I said that the water heater is covered and asked why we would have to pay that. He said that there are external parts that AHS doesn’t cover and we needed those. I told him not to come back. These people have been known to take air-conditioners out of people’s backyards and not bring them back until there’s a big fight over it. They’re horrible. It was like a nightmare. If one reads online, they’re awful.

I decided to talk to a person when I book these and get somebody else because I don’t want them in my home. They’re crooks and AHS is associated with crooks. That’s not good ‘cause I know AHS are good people. They need to get somebody else in their list. Have somebody do some research. The contractors might be inexpensive for AHS to pay but AHS might end up paying more. Overall, we appreciate the service. We’ve had wonderful people here and things were repaired all but one time, on the first time and that was because the contractor needed a part. It’s been a good experience and we hope that AHS will allow us to be their customer for years to come.

Last year, we didn’t have any Freon on the AC unit so we didn’t have air conditioning. American Home Shield sent out a local company, Home Comfort, and they proceeded to fill the unit with Freon without checking for any leaks. This year comes around and we had a horrible winter. What I didn’t understand was heating takes Freon as well. We suffered the entire winter with less than appropriate heat because I didn’t know there was a problem. We just bought this place and thought that’s just what we were gonna have to put up with.

Then it came the time to use the air conditioning in the spring and it was not working. It didn’t even blow cold air. So, we called American Home Shield again and they sent out Temperature Pros. They looked for a leak and they found it. They replaced some parts and the motor that was bad. It stank our house so bad with the chemical smell. My husband was on oxygen. He just was recovering from pneumonia and his nose was burning. His chest was hurting. It’s been since about May 11th since we have had heat or air conditioning. It’s now June 6th and they’re coming tomorrow to replace the motor that they just replaced last week, which was not their fault. It was a bad part.

It’s been very long months and I am so thankful that our weather has been unbelievably perfect. I haven’t even missed the air conditioning or heat except for a couple of days that I would’ve liked to have AC. It’s also been very long months working with Temperature Pros. Upon the first phone call I received from them, I was excited to meet their people because the gals in the office, both Jodie and Sophie, are stellar. I’m not just another number. I am a customer. I am a friend. They treated me that way from the first phone call.

American Home Shield is another story. It’d be nice if they hired people that spoke English as a first language instead of a third. One day, this gal was talking to me and I was just like, “Man, I don’t have any idea what you’re saying.” It just makes a phone call long and frustrating. I said, “Can I talk to somebody else?” She said, “Yeah, you can hang up then call back.” So, I hung up and called back. I swear, I got her sister. I pay a monthly fee and that’s the service I get from American Home Shield. It’s a five-minute phone call turning into a 15-minute phone call because I can’t understand.

Funny thing is, I put Temperature Pros' phone number in my cell phone. I thought from hearing the American Home Shield’s people that their name was Temperature Frost. I was like, “What a weird name.” I put Temperature Frost on my phone. Then they called me. They don’t know how to say their O. That’s the kind of thing I just don’t have time for. It’s great for somebody of another nationality to have jobs here but maybe not telephone jobs.

But I am thankful that I bought a home warranty. I’ve never bought a home warranty in my life. American Home Shield is covering a large portion of an expense that I would have been stuck with. It is a budgeted expense now instead of a, “Oh, what am I gonna do now?” I am thankful even though I have frustrations talking with them. I want to have a telephone conversation with somebody who’s knowledgeable and who can actually speak English and talk back to me. I don’t think it’s really that much to ask.

I filed a claim for my pool with American Home Shield. Their contractor called me and their people came right out the next day. Our claim ended up being a large one. American Home Shield approved it with no problems. There was no runaround. I couldn’t be happier with the customer service and everything. I was very thrilled.

My AC wasn’t blowing cold and Air Squad Heating & Air Conditioning came out twice. But the issue turned out to be the thermostat, which they said the warranty company is not responsible for. So right now, I’m dealing with the company manufacturer of the thermostat in the warranty desk. Hopefully, that resolves the issue. Nonetheless, the technicians were good. I submitted that claim over the phone and the customer service was also good when speaking with American Home Shield's representative. Then the turnaround time for someone to get out is like two days. It is pretty quick.

It has been a couple years that we've had American Home Shield and it's usually very easy to file a claim. You just call it in and then someone will call back, pick up the job and come fix whatever has to be fixed. This time, the sink was leaking on the bottom of the sink so we called it in for someone to come repair it. But you pay every month for the warranty and then you still gotta pay $75. It used to be cheaper than that. On the other hand, everything we've gotten has been fixed correctly so we've never had to have the contractors come back out.

I’ve had American Home Shield before when we were in California. We bought a house and they provided the service there. We replaced the water heater with them and they were good. Here, the experience was good too. The guy they referred got back to me right away. When I talked to AHS reps over the phone, they were very friendly. When I told them about the issue, I did it online and the contractor called me the same day. There was an LED panel that went out that controls the oven. The contractor got the part number and ordered it. He later contacted me that the part was no longer available and sent me a copy of the order. The diagnosis had been completed and turned over back to the warranty company to address the issue. They okayed the replacement according to the document but I haven’t heard from anybody yet.

I bought the house a month ago, and the entire kitchen and living room electrical went out. I called American Home Shield and the techs came out the next day. It was just loose wires up and down the wall and they fixed it in less than an hour.

I got an email from American Home Shield suggesting that preventative maintenance on my air conditioning be done and it could be done through them for $75. K&J Mechanical came out and they were great. They obviously knew what they were doing. They cleaned the coil and the system, and they gave us some advice on filters. American Home Shield is very timely, and everyone they've sent has been very good. I just renewed for the third year and I've already recommended them to a friend.

We had problems with an appliance repair. American Home Shield went ahead and bought me a refrigerator but that was a little frustrating. Most recently, I filed a claim when my air conditioner went out. I did it over the phone and it was pretty much a recording. Then I got an email and a text letting me know if somebody was gonna get ahold of me through the whole process. So that went real good. The contractor did a good job as well. There was somebody out within two days and the issue got fixed before it got hot. I'm really happy about that because I’m in Bakersfield, California, and it’s now 102 degrees out.

My AC wasn't blowing as cold as it should have. Submitting a claim online for it to American Home Shield was easy. Within five days, Service Pro was able to come out and help me. This happened during the peak season for people having problems with air conditioning so I understood that they couldn't get out to my place right away. They called me and let me kept me informed throughout the process. They didn't leave me in the dark with anything. When the technician was coming out, he called me and let me know when he was on the way. He also called me to let me know when he had resolved my issue. I was satisfied with the work that they did and thus far, the AC is working as it's supposed to.
