The AC wasn’t cooling. I submitted an online claim with AHS and the website was easy to navigate. Then I got a call to set up an appointment time. Royal Flush AC & Heating came out the next day, put in some Freon, and it’s doing fine now. The technician was great. He was really nice and he did a good job. I’d hire him again if I had to. I still owed $136 ‘cause AHS only covered $10 of Freon and it was 70 something. But if something more was wrong and costed more, I still would break even. I also had a claim for a washer a while back and that was fine. The tech was good too. So far, everything is okay with American Home Shield.

I filed a claim online for the dishwasher and American Home Shield sent me an email to tell me who was coming out. When the dishwasher ran, it spit out a lot of water. It was dripping down into the sink because it was clogged. The technician called to let me know he was on his way. When he arrived, he took care of the problem, and everything was done. And now, I know how to lift up everything, take off the little pieces and clean the filter. American Home Shield was very easy to use. It served its purpose. So far, my experience has been very pleasant.

My air conditioning wasn’t cooling properly and I wanted to get this fixed before it would get really hot. I submitted the claim with American Home Shield online, and they got back with me and told me that A-US Air was going to be my provider. Then within a few hours, they contacted me and told me that they would be calling that evening with a window of time for the next day. They got out there pretty quickly. They're quick and professional. And they explained what they did thoroughly. They're great and my air is working great now. All in all, it’s a good work.

Been out of hot water for 3 days already, 4 more days!!! Was told the next day or Saturday. No one called to let me know that it will not happen until 4 more days from now. The receptionist did not really care about the emergency situation. I have major water damage in my home and the contractors have been put on hold until they can come out and fix the damage in the room where the tank is. Mind you I am a senior citizen, disabled and a cancer patient. Thank you AHS. I will report again in 4 days!!!

Updated on 05/29/2019: Last week I placed a call because my refrigerator wasn’t working. Contractor came yesterday and it is still not working. Report hasn’t been submitted from them and now I have to wait another 48 hours. It is 90 degrees and I have to keep purchasing ice for a cooler so I can have something to drink. In addition have to take off work and this could jeopardize my job. The representatives are out of the country and have no clue what is going on. Spoke to supervisor (Gin) who sounded like the representative who I spoke to first. (Interesting) I know all about doing that. Calling Better Business Bureau and local (US) news stations for investigations on this home warranty company. You pay for service but it is poor.

Original Review: My refrigerator /freezer is not working. Lost all my food. Had to take off Friday to clean up mess. However my apple is not until Tuesday between 10-1. Have go almost 5 days without food etc and will have to eat out. Also I will have to take off from Tuesday and probably take off another day or two jeopardizing my job. Just a way for the company to prolong so customer won’t wait and they won’t AHS pay for what is needed. I could understand if it was a washer / dryer but a refrigerator, furnace or AC is totally different. I will probably have to wait another week or two. Disappointed.

In July of last year I submitted a request to have our A/C unit looked at. I was told that the only issue was that was that the refrigerant needed replaced. This is not covered under the plan so the charge was $500. The system worked for the rest of the summer. One week ago we had the same issue. A different service company was sent and I was told that the refrigerant needed replaced again (another $500), because of a leak.

After reviewing the original invoice there was no other description of any kind of troubleshooting. I called customer service and was told that the original company did not enter any diagnostic information and therefore they can't determine what was done. I was told that "I" would need to contact the original company and verify that no other work was done, (the warranty was valid for 30 days). So here I sit with no air being told that I will have to pay for refrigerant again and to submit my old invoice and I "may" get reimbursed. I don't know how to complete that process as there isn't a place on the website to do so.

Then they called back on May 22, 2019 with a vendor who was available May 30, 2019. I said no way. Then on May 23, 2019, they authorize me to call my own vendor. My vendor was there at 11:00. On the same day!

Now it's May 24, 2019, and we are waiting for them to approve the repair. And the rep is telling me to call back tomorrow, which is a Saturday on a holiday weekend. It's not happening. These customer service reps DO NOT LISTEN. They stick to the script and offer no assistance whatsoever. I have spoken with Sheena, Leah, Alice, and Mae over the last 5 days. They all repeat the same things over and over again and offer no assistance. I've had 2 contracts with AHS for over 10 years but their customer service is at an all-time low!! Do not waste your money with American Home Shield. We have been without AC since Sunday 5/19 and have been given the run around constantly because they only have one HVAC contractor to service our area. We were told they wouldn’t be able to come until Friday 5/24 between 1-4, but because that was so long to wait they would try to locate another vendor. Waited a day to hear something and finally called in to find out they have no other vendors and now it will be next Tuesday at the earliest that their only vendor can get to us. We are having 90+ degree days and having to wait over a week after given the run around time after time again is ridiculous. Save your money and find a reputable company to deal with. Not to mention the ONLY HVAC company they deal with has one star ratings on all sites with multiple complaints of them causing water damage to people’s homes.

In summary, they’ve outsourced customer service to another country with “employees” who obviously aren’t held responsible for their actions because I was hung up on 3x’s in the past week after being on hold for more than 30 mins each call (two 15-min intervals on average). The vendors they contract w/ are given a per-customer budget to stay within, & if the vendor exceeds this average, AHS hounds them. How can a vendor be told to keep their repairs to an average of $250 per customer when there are such a wide spectrum of issues that could be wrong? If you look at your contract, there’s a max amount per item that AHS will cover. They do the cheapest fix until they hit that max amount or you get so frustrated w/ paying the items that aren’t covered that you give up & buy a new one.

We’ve had AHS for about 5 years now. They’ve never covered anything we’ve called on them for. So we pay $63/ mo. + $75 service call for companies that wait days before coming out, only to be told it’s not covered. Then we have to reach back in our pockets to cover it ourselves w/ a more reputable company. There’s always a loophole for AHS.

This recent issue w/ AC has been a true nightmare. AHS’ contracted vendor (Myers) came out to look at our 20-yr-old unit. Afterwards, I got a call from AHS stating they’d replace the coil, & we’d be responsible for more than $1,600 in repairs & bringing the ancient unit up to code. This includes $800 in a Freon type that the government is phasing out. After finally getting to an AHS supervisor, I asked why in the world we’d dump more than $3k into band aids for a 20-yr-old AC unit ($3k between AHS & our cost), & I was told they can only go by what the service tech writes on the report. Ok, I get that. So I call the service company (Myers) & am told they are directed to only write what is needed to make the item work, not “what makes the most sense.” They are not to take into consideration the age of the item.

I talked to the supervisor of Myers, & he literally told me even if my unit were 50 yrs old, he’d have to write down whatever was needed to make the unit run & pump out cold air. I asked in what situation would he write that it needs to be replaced, & he couldn’t answer the question. He said there’s usually an option to repair anything. I called AHS back to relay this, & they denied it. So, I asked AHS if I could get Myers on the phone for a conference call. They told me Myers was closed at that time (Saturday) but they would once Myers opened, if Myers agreed to it. Well, Myers was open but the supervisor wasn’t in. I called back on Monday, & the Myers supervisor gave the ok for a conference call, but when I called AHS back, they stated they couldn’t participate in a conference call on their recorded line, despite me arranging it. So now it’s a he-said, she-said matter.

I told AHS I felt that they are taking the cheapest option, not considering what’s best for the consumer, & had I trusted they had my interest at heart & not done research, I would have dumped $1,600 into this old unit only to dish out more in the near future once this old unit has another issue wrong & AHS has claimed to hit their max payout. I would have been in a bigger financial mess. The AHS supervisor agreed to cover the cost to get a 2nd opinion. The 2nd vendor wasn’t a crook like the 1st* but straight up told me & my husband AHS isn’t going to cover a replacement. (Myers* who offered me an $8k AC unit w/ a $1k “AHS discount”.... I priced 7 other well-known companies & not a single one was more than $6.8. Myers is a joke!)

During this mess, I called 6 companies outside of AHS to get quotes on new units. The 1st that came out, went into the attic & found our flue vent wasn’t even exiting our house, meaning carbon monoxide was sitting in the attic when our heater runs. He also found multiple ducts busted & therefore leaking tons of air, not making its way to the vents in the rooms. Because ducts are supposedly covered by AHS, I called them to get a quote on those repairs, & they made me pay an additional $75 service charge DESPITE Myers’ lack of checking this when they came out.

I called Myers to ask if their techs check duct work (not telling them why I was asking at 1st), & the lady said it depends on what’s wrong. I told her the air wasn’t feeling like it was cooling like it previously did (our initial complaint), & she said, yes they would look at the ducts. I then let her know why I asked & told her I shouldn’t have to pay the service fee since the techs didn’t look like they should have, & she said the service fee is AHS, not them. There are more little things, but I’ve typed a ton already. This has been WAY more hassle than it’s worth & caused me so much stress & missed time at work being on the phone for hours & fighting for what we are owed per contract terms. During it all, I’ve had co-workers share similar stories & other vendors tell me this is why they don’t do business w/ AHS. They don’t have the consumers’ interests at heart & are solely focused on the money.

I did a service request on last Wednesday 5/15/19 that my unit was not cooling my house, I received a text stating that RescueYouAir would be contacting with an appointment to come check out the unit. So Thursday the tech came out and found out that I need a compressor and that he would have to have the part ordered so by it being the weekend my part won’t be able til Monday or Tuesday. So today is Thursday a week later and I haven’t heard from AHS or RescueYourAir!!! So I called them to see what was the hold up. Come to find out they saying that the part is not covered and that I had to pay for the parts and the coolant over ($600). Why tell me that something is covered and it has been ordered and come to find out that they haven’t even ordered my part. Oh and not to mention my $75 service fee that they took out of my account for something that that was not completed.

We were buying our first house and found a really good Realtor who recommended America Home Shield. We trusted her and we were gonna do whatever she told us. I’m glad that we did. The warranty is worth it because I’m not a handy guy. I can’t fix anything. My wife is lucky if I could hang a painting. Having the warranty is a big deal for us. We give AHS a call when we have a claim and somebody is usually in contact with us relatively quickly. The process is usually pretty easy.

When there was a problem with our washing machine, AHS assigned us to Good Shepherd Appliance. Their technician wasn’t the first person to come and work on our washing machine. We had it checked a couple of times. When their technician finally got there, he seemed to really know his stuff. He said they could continue to try to fix the washing machine but he didn't think it would be worth it. In the end, he talked to American Home Shield and recommended that we get a replacement. That was what AHS offered us and that was what we did.

The contractors AHS sent out were great. But my wife told me that there was a gentleman that she said made her very uncomfortable among the people that came to drop off the appliance. She said that the way that he looked at her scared her. She was frightened to the point where she called me on the phone. She did not tell me what was going on and that she was frightened, but she wanted to have me there. I told her that that was the kind of thing she should let AHS know as she was uncomfortable to the point where she felt unsafe and wanted to call me. But she said to just let the matter go and forget about it. Other than that, it’s all pretty fair with AHS. We pay $50 something a month. It is a little bit expensive to have people come up $75 every time. But in the end, I like American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

American Home Shield has been great. When I submit a claim, they text me to tell me the information on who is coming out. And then the contractor contacts me right after they did. So far, I’ve had no problems with the contractors. American Home Shield always got right back with me, and they always sent a contractor. I’ve never had to wait on a contractor. I’m very satisfied with American Home Shield. I’ve recommended them to several people I know. My only gripe is the deal with the air conditioner. Right now, Holder’s Heating and Air is doing it, but if I had a problem six months down the road, Holder’s might not be the ones that will come out.

The outside unit was kicking on and off, and it wouldn’t stay running. It wasn’t cooling. When the tech came out, he changed something, and it worked for about a week, and then it went right back to doing it again. So, he came back out. He changed something else, and had to order some kinda valve. He said the valve upstairs went bad somehow. It was just a chain reaction. When he put the valve on, it got to where it was blowing hot air instead of cold. So, he came out again and tried to temporary get it to cool down during the night when the sun goes down.

Once in the three years we've had American Home Shield, our refrigerator went out and they sent somebody who repaired it. More recently, our washer was leaking on the floor, so I called American Home Shield and they set up the appointment with Fidelity. Their techs came over, looked at my washer and took several pictures. There were a couple of cracks and they said it was kinda worse off and that they were gonna recommend it to be replaced because it costs more to fix it.

Thereafter, we had a ticket number for American Home Shield so I ended up calling them the next day. They sent us the choices for replacement. They said we could either do X, Y, or Z, and they could replace with that unit. Alternatively, they would offer an amount of money if we wanted to go check out washers at Home Depot which was what we did. Overall, we've had a good experience with AHS.

American Home Shield is a good company compared to the other warranty companies. I have three properties under them in Virginia. Whenever we have a problem, we call American Home Shield. Sometimes we do our claim online because I’m not available. In the last six months, we had one claim for plumbing in one house and an air conditioning claim for another house. We pay our part and the thing is being fixed. If I have some problem, I call AHS back.

With AHS, there were hard times and there were good times. Sometimes they denied a claim and they never listened to me. Sometimes I called them back, requested, and they listened to me. Sometimes they say something is covered or it's not covered. It depends on the situation, on the job, and on the person who came to do the service. This is common with technicians and it's in the technician words that they use. They can deny very easily. In suggesting a word, everything can be messed up or if they change one word, it’s done. We can do nothing because of the word they use.

One time I had a problem with the air conditioning. The technician said the condenser inside was bad and they could not fix it. I just got it from the market. After three months, it was bad again. I called AHS and another contractor came. They said it was the fault of the last people who did the work. They did it wrong. They did not fix or resolved the problem. I got back to AHS and told them that I had to pay $300 out of pocket. The technicians were at fault but I was blamed. The AHS guy was nice and he listened. He said I was right and he saw that it was their fault.

A technician who comes has an impact. AHS hires the technician but if a technician wants to take something, they have to get the approval from the American Home Shield. It's in how they present the case. They know how to get a claim denied and they know how to get it approved. For a job I had done in one house, AHS covered everything. For the same job done in another house, the company charged me $600. We can’t do anything because we are at their mercy. Whatever they say, they say. This is what it is because they don’t have fair criteria.

When technicians both have AC, one technician can say it has not been serviced and another technician can just concentrate on the problem and fix it. A technician could not want to fix the problem and say that the AC was not serviced last time and ask for payment when we get it serviced. You then lose your $100 but don’t get the AC fixed. Companies are dependent on the technician and technicians can do whatever they want. I have seen some lazy technicians. They just mess everything and then go home. But I have seen nice people too who come and they help you. They do everything. Only thing is they have to maneuver things. Other than that, everything is all right with AHS.

I had an issue with the garage opener and about the next day or so, I called American Home Shield. One guy came out and he looked at the door and did something to it. But then, about the next day, the door was doing the same thing as it was doing before. Another guy called and they sent out another guy. He came out and he worked on the garage. It worked for a little while but then it started doing the same thing that it was doing at first. I called back and then they sent the same guy that got out the last time.

I told the guy what the door was doing and that it was doing the same thing. I asked him if it was possible that it was something in the garage opener itself. He said that he didn't know, but he would check it out. He looked at it and showed me what was wrong with it. He said that I could just replace it. He had the part on his truck, so I just let him replace it. I asked him if American Home Shield would pay for that and he said that AHS wouldn’t so, I paid him. I paid for the garage opener for a total of $389. But my husband called American Home Shield the same Wednesday evening and talked to the lady. He got our contract with American Home Shield and it said that they covered that. But I didn't know that, so I went ahead and paid for the garage door because I was tired of the garage not working and we had the car in the garage.

He didn't just do whatever and he let me know what he was doing. He had to come out twice for the repair and there haven't been any other issues since.

I submit claims to American Home Shield via the internet and it takes less than a minute for me. I click what's wrong and they assign the contractor and give me their phone number. The contractor then calls me within 24 hours to schedule a time to come out. The contractors are all pretty professional. They usually get the job done the first time if they don't have to order parts. If they have to order parts, they come back usually within two to three days to repair once the parts are in. I've never had an issue out of the 8 or 10 years I've had American Home Shield. When the pump was seizing up and completely stopped, MKY Electric came out and checked it, ordered one, and replaced it. I talked my neighbor into getting American Home Shield and he really likes it too.

When the air conditioning didn't work, I put a claim with American Home Shield online. A1 AC & Heating contacted me right away and set up an appointment. Then they texted when they were on their way so I would know the window. They came out once to service the AC and it worked for a little while, and then it stopped working again. They came out again and fixed it. Both times, they came when they said they would. It's nice having air conditioning when it's super hot. We've had American Home Shield since 2012 and we've had a good experience, so far. Their website is easy to use when submitting claims and they've done what they said the would. It's a little expensive monthly, but that's what insurance is. And I would recommend getting it.

American Home Shield has a very good website and it is easy to use. I always go online to put in a claim. I can quickly go in the website and put in what my issue is. I can do it any time I want. It just takes five minutes to put a claim in, and very easy to do. When I put in a claim at midnight, I got a call the next morning to make the appointment. I'm very happy.

The contractors were very professional. It is clear that they know that we're an AHS client. This is one of the reason why I continue to stay with AHS. I've dealt with similar type of folks before we had American Home Shield, and it was not at the same level of professionalism. When the AC unit wasn't kicking on, I booked a service online. We got a call about a day later. The contractor came out the next day and it turned out to be a minor issue with the capacitor. They changed it out and within 15 minutes, it was done. Everything worked out well.

I called American Home Shield on a Wednesday and I set up an appointment for Monday but it didn't happen. On that day, my refrigerator was out and my husband's medicine had to be thrown out. I told them it was an emergency. The appointment was between 8 and 12 and at 11:30, Nano, the contractor, called me and said they couldn't make it. So, I was not happy. Gap X came and they were absolutely fabulous. They said something was wrong with it and they would have the part. They came back as they said they would and fixed it.

I had no complaints at all with Gap X but the overall experience with AHS was poor and I would not recommend them to anyone. If I said it was an emergency and my husband had medicine, they should've been out there. I should not have waited from May 16 to a Monday and then to a Wednesday. I ended up waiting seven days for a refrigerator repair. We had it for six properties and we paid annually for it. I was very disappointed. So, I will not renew. I was that dissatisfied.

I had a backed up washtub in the basement and I had a couple of handles on the sink that were looking like they were gonna stop working soon. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield on their website and they sent out C Mayes Plumbing and Heating. The guy showed up on time. He was here before the end of the given timeframe. Also, he was excellent and very confident. Whenever I ask a question, he goes, “Well, would you like me to show you?” So, that was nice. He was very accommodating, very professional, and he resolved my issues fast.

However, I have not always had great service from that contractor. I had a pipe that was beneath the tub that started leaking. I had already had other plumbing problems in the past. So, I had an access panel right at the base of the stairs, beneath where that plumbing was, that I decided if somebody ever needed to get up there again, I’m just gonna keep that an access panel instead of packing up the whole sealing. C Mayes came out and basically said they couldn't access the problem through that panel and that the entire linen closet would need to be taken apart so they could access it. I knew it wasn’t true and they wouldn’t back down on it. I told them it was a lot of carpentry work I would have to do after they finish and they said I would have needed to get all that stuff taken care of before they do the repair. I've notified AHS about it but they sort of just said, “Well, that’s what we have to do.”

I ended up paying the service fee to American Home Shield. Then, I paid another contractor to go through the access panel and get it done for me because it cost me less to pay them than it would have if I had paid just the service call to Mayes. That carpentry work exceeded the amount that I paid the contractor who just simply went through the access panel where the pipes were. The contractor came over and said that even if C Mayes doesn't wanna go through there, I still wouldn't have to take it apart. I could cut that piece out and put a piece of wood back up over it. That was an experience that I was very unhappy about. Other than that, as far as the little things, they come out, show up on time, and get it done. Their people are great and usually, I see the same people that come out.

I usually submit my claims to American Home Shield online and then they send somebody out. The lady that worked on our washer came out the next day and she was pretty good. She also had to come out a couple of times and got everything taken care of. When our air conditioner was down, it took the contractor a little bit longer to come out because he was busy. I had to pay for Freon that I wasn't aware of. I haven't got to look at the contract, but he didn't say anything was wrong with that. It was just the fan. And then, I ended up having to pay for that again.

When we had a plumbing problem once, the same thing happened as with the air conditioner. I paid the deductible and then when the tech got there, he said I had to pay for something else. He also said they don't do this claim and that American Home Shield don't cover it. So, I ended up paying again. There is a lot of hidden stuff that I do not know of.

Our dishwasher wasn’t working recently and the water wasn’t getting hot. I called which wasn’t too good because I was on hold forever, and when I finally got through, I had to call back several times. American Home Shield sent someone out who couldn’t fix it, so then they sent somebody else out who couldn’t fix it either, and they sent someone else out again. It was almost like they didn’t wanna fix it so they were delaying everything. The first technician that came out said that it was a plumbing issue. Then, the plumber came out and said, “No, it’s not.” The first guy came back out and said, “You just need a new dishwasher.” American Home Shield wasn’t interested in giving us a new dishwasher, so they sent another technician out. After four months of not having a dishwasher, we finally got a new one.

During one of the many times I called and said that the water wasn’t getting hot in the dishwasher, one of the many representatives I talked to somehow interpreted that to mean that I had a problem with my water heater, so they submitted a ticket for a water heater. Then, they started billing me for a water heater charge. That took another three months to resolve because they kept billing me a $75 service charge for a water heater that I never even had a problem with. We had one other issue and that was for our clothes dryer. It also wasn’t getting hot, so the clothes were ruffling around in the dyer. On that particular issue, they sent out a technician and the guy was amazing. He took the whole thing apart, found the problem, fixed it and we were up and running again right away. But based on the first issue with the dishwasher, there is no way I'm gonna stay with American Home Shield.

My thoughts on the claims process are kinda mixed. I have an upstairs and a downstairs AC unit, and I needed both of them to be looked at. But when you fill out the website and you say you need to do a claim, it only lets you say central air and then it goes on its way. So when the air conditioning company called me to set up the appointment, the rep told me to make sure that I had both units on the work order or else they’d have to charge me. So I called back in and I spoke to someone who didn't appear to have English as her first language. She had a very nice tone and a very nice voice but it was very frustrating playing with the communication gap. It almost seemed like she was a bit condescending to me.

But we caught the AC issue right at the beginning of a hot spell and fortunately, the guy came out within a couple of days. It’s been 90 degrees here everyday last week. We wouldn’t have made it if the AC still wasn't cooling. This is also a different company than the one American Home Shield had doing air conditioners for them in the past because I had a claim about seven years ago. But I like these people. They are a little more professional. The work was done by the time I got home but the technician was still there and he went over everything with me. He said the issue was the condenser. He said that they wear out but he replaced that and I had cold air again. Since then, the house has been maintaining temperature.

I also told him about the clogs in my drain and he said that I would need to open up the drain for the washing machine. It's too small. I understand that but at this time, I can't afford to do all that kind of work that he was suggesting. So I'm just asking him to snake it. I wanted him to do that in the first place but he didn't so when he comes back on Wednesday, I'm hoping that he will do that. I'm waiting also for dishwasher parts to come in.

When I called, they didn’t have the payment from the title company. They were able to get that figured out and get me scheduled. Recently, I called AHS for a fuse that went out. AHS said that the Thermador boards were fried. At the entry level with the reps, everything was very pleasant. The people came and picked up the board. When I found out that they wanted to rebuild that particular board, I said no and that I wanted a new board or a new oven. It was two hours on the phone with them every time to go through this. It just escalated and every once in a while, a closer would step in who was very demeaning, trying to not shame me into a decision, saying that there’s no more escalation, that they’re not gonna handle it.

Finally, they said that they will replace but somebody stepped in and said that they’ve already rebuilt the boards and will not replace it. The guy was not very presentable. I asked who made the decision as I didn’t tell them to do that and he got a little indignant. They will not give me price in lieu as well and so that part has been very difficult. It’s an older oven. I called around to find anybody that had any new parts for that and nobody had. All the parts have been discontinued. And I thought that American Home Shield has been reasonable and actually due diligent on a few of other claims.

After about 10 times on the phone, one lady finally said to get me price in lieu. Then a week later, they said no, that they already ordered the part and they’ve done things. I said that I’ve already been through that and they can’t have it both ways. They keep referring to G7 in their contract where they have the right to repair. But in that same sentence, it says that they’re not responsible for any losses from that repair yet they want me accept what I think is truly a Band-Aid effect just because they have some certified manufacturer that says that they can rebuild that part.

I thought that was very unreasonable. Nobody buys a refurbished computer anymore because it doesn’t work out. I don’t even know if it’s compatible with the rest of the system. We’re forced to get a new oven as we had no choice. We couldn’t sit for six months without one and AHS refused to pay for anything. The other gentleman mailed a complaint form out to me so as soon as I get that, I’ll fill it out and go from there.

The one thing I found very difficult was that we had a circulating hot water pump go out. When we called to have it replaced, the guy that did that said that the old had a built-in timer and the new one has a new timer that’s separate. There’s no electrical outlet on that area so I had to get an electrician and the guy has to come back. It took a while, and in between time, I had the guy look at the garbage disposal when he was here ‘cause it was making a funny noise. But then I get a letter in the mail denying the claim and I never made one. I should call back on it. All in all, my experience with American Home Shield has been a plus on the average. It has been up and down. The rest of the people there have been doing their job. They try to see your point of view but they already knew they were told no.

I have had AHS for two years now and I was putting in service requests from time to time for minor repairs and such. Typically the $75 you pay for a service request exceeds the cost of what the maintenance actually costs so you'd be better off just finding a repair company on your own to fix the issue. On top of that, their contract is very shady in that it doesn't really cover the important items for which you would actually need to repair. For example, if you need a plumbing issue resolved but don't have a main line clean out, you will not be covered for anything on that.

I spent $12k for plumbing repairs - AHS covered nothing but charged me the $75 for pairing me with the company I used for that repair. Another example: If you have a evaporator on your AC unit that needs to be flushed, AHS will cover that but they won't cover the process that requires the technician to get to that part. They also don't protect the consumer and continue to pair you with repair companies that are rated very low with experience, technical know-how, terrible customer service and you get trapped if you want to go with someone else.

They don't give you a choice with who they select. And, if you want a second opinion for a repair the company is telling you you need, AHS wants to charge you $75 again to do that. It's a total waste of money and scam. I would be better off saving the $390 I paid annually to find my own highly rated technicians and stop the waste of time trying to get approvals for something they won't even cover anyway.

I requested the technician call me when they come to my home so I could be present.

I waited at my home all morning - no technician showed. When I contacted the pool company they stated a technician came out and everything was fine, we just didnt have our pool opened completely. No technician came out - after multiple calls back and forth, we still did not reach a resolution. When I attempted to call again, the pool company stated I "cursed them out" and they refuse to provide us with service - this again was the company's third lie.

I contacted American Home Shield requested new service at no additional charge. I stated it would have to be a different company - the customer service representative stated they would do a service request with a different company. However, they did it with the same company - so obviously that company did not call us.

I called American Home Shield warranty approximately 5 times after simply requesting that my $75 service fee be refunded, nothing more. Multiple times they said they would call and email me back - they did not. They put me on hold for long periods of time with no resolution. They wanted further investigations because of what the pool company said - despite me pointing out the HUNDREDS of awful reviews online of this pool company of people outlining the same deceit and unprofessionalism.

I requested to be provided with their attorney's contact information so I could send a demand letter. The customer service representative today refused to provide this information. I asked her to transfer me to a supervisor - she stated that will not change the answer so there is no point. At this time, I will be sure to let everyone know how unprofessional this warranty company is. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We made a claim when our AC unit was showing that it was on but the fans were not blowing any air. Crispy Air & Heating was the contractor we got and the guy who came out he diagnosed the problem. We were told that there was a warning showing that all the Freon would leak out of the system. The cautionary device wouldn't allow the air conditioning to malfunction any further and wouldn't let the AC wear itself out. He found a leak in the system and he fixed it. But a request had to be sent up for approval so he wasn’t able to fix the AC that day. Luckily, it was early in the season. If you don’t have an AC in your home in Arizona, it could be pretty brutal.

Four days later, another technician came out and did the repair. The system was recharged and everything seems to be working good now. The biggest issue was the claim was not completed in one day. In Arizona, especially if you have elderly or if you have children, having no AC could be pretty dangerous. There was also the out-of-pocket expense that caught us off guard because AHS doesn't pay for the whole Freon. They only pay a portion of that. They paid $10 per pound but that stuff is $65 a pound. The total claim cost us almost about $650. Still, we got really lucky because I know a lot of people have a lot more extensive cooler repair than we did. Ours was a pretty simple fix.

Both the guys who came for the repair were very professional. They were very helpful and polite. Their vehicle was well-marked too. If you call Comcast or Xfinity, they hire private contractors to come out. They show up in a station wagon with a ladder strapped to the roof and you’re like, “Really?” They do shoddy work too as they're paid hourly. The more jobs they get, the more money they get.

Sending in the claim to American Home Shield is easy. But I have an issue with the fact that their processing of $100 deductible doesn't always go so smoothly. I have no qualms when the companies they work with reschedules, but to get the $100 back because the service never occurred is a whole other story. I have a home where I had a washer and dryer fixed at the same time. They both had problems and there was only one service fee. But American Home Shield kept charging me two. And then they send me notices that I owe a $100. I called them five times to get that one squared away.

My other issue is the offshore people that they use now. They didn't use to use them. Their call centers in the Philippines and they've been okay, but they're not the easiest people to understand. My latest issue is the increase in the cost. I got a renewal notice, and my contract went from $43 a month to $60 a month. That's a big jump. And when I called, the offshore guy started reading me his script. But in terms of getting somebody out, my experience has been fine. Also, I have not had an issue with the service providers in general. They've been pretty good. They've been very, very nice and responsible.

My experience with the contractor from AM PM Plumbing was perfectly fine. He came out and was super professional. I really liked him. He really knew his stuff. He had all the parts available and didn’t have to reschedule with me. He went in and replaced all the parts. However, I don’t know what the deal is with the toilet. They fixed it twice now and it’s still not working. It's still not flushing. It flushes but you can't just push it and let it go. So, if you don’t, it clogs it. The sink that they also fixed is backed up again. I'm gonna have to put in another claim, and it just kinda stinks. It’s not their fault, but I have to pay another $75 because you only have 30 days and it's over 30 days now.

The reps at American Home Shield are fantastic too. I just put in a claim today for my washer that broke. I hit “Done” and within letting go of the button, I had a text message from them saying that someone would be giving me a call. And they gave me a call and scheduled the appointment with me. For them to be Johnny-on-the-spot was super great and I appreciate that as a mom of three. I'm a Realtor and I use American Home Shield for all of my clients. I don’t make them but I tell them, and 9 times out of 10, they all go with American Home Shield and they’ve all been satisfied.

It's very difficult to submit a claim with American Home Shield. You cannot get through when you call them. It's always on hold. The only way I can get through is if my internet is up. Then I'm able to put the claim in and they would get back to me. They do a good job there. But if my internet is down, I can't even put in a request. I can't stand it. When issues occur, like with my air conditioning unit, that is truly something that should be done ASAP. They should improve on the telephone calls for when we're calling to make a repair call. They need more workers and service people in the areas.

But when they get somebody out here, they do assist me and do good work. However, I didn’t have a very good experience when the contractor came to do my air conditioning unit. From his demeanor, his attitude and even his approach when I shook his hand, he had no customer service skills at all. He was a very nasty person and he was out there with a friend, cussing. He was just going about his personal business although the issue was resolved. The appliance guys, on the other hand, have been great. The icemaker was not working properly and Caltech Appliance came right out. They found the issue which was a part that had to be replaced because we could hear it turning. The technician said it was not gonna last long. They said they could get it together for me right then but they were gonna have to order the part. Once the part came in, they notified me and the technician came out. It was less than five minutes to put it in and they left.

The whole thing shakes as it goes between cycles. We're not happy with the repair at all. The noise has gotten worse. I'm gonna call AHS about again.

The contractor that we got for our water heater was horrible. They came out Friday and looked at the water heater and determined that it needed to be replaced. The person said it would take three to four days. I called initially and the contractor gave me the stuff that wasn't covered, and they told me the cost. It was almost like I was getting something free from them. I've talked to several different ladies. The first one didn't really know the answer, so someone else jumped on the phone, and explained the process to me about this part that wasn't covered. It was fine. I called this morning and I felt like I was getting some type of assistance free, and they were doing me a favor. The rep said the soonest the tech can come is Monday. I'm the one that is almost two weeks with no hot water in my house. It makes it hard to shower.

But the thing about it was she was not apologizing to me or saying, "Hey, we're really backed up, because a lot of people are..." She just said that that was as soon as she can get me. But I haven't had hot water in a while and it's frustrating. Not to mention the time, where they said they could be here on Monday between 12 and 4. I asked her if they could call me 30 minutes before because I have to work. She said they could guarantee 15 minutes. The staff in the contractor's office was not friendly. I would never give them my business if I had to make a choice. I would rather use someone else. But as far as American Home Shield goes, that part was not bad.

Called AHS as we purchased the plan with the new home purchase. We had 2 issues. Two toilets were leaking and the water supply system pressure tank is leaking. Toilet entries were easy to find on their site, but there was no place to specify the pressure tank bladder leak as an issue. Decided on the "a pipe is leaking" entry. Service was quick, but that's where things went bad. In the process of fixing one of the toilets, the plumber discovered that the closure valve on the tank fill was bad and could not be shut off. He said he could not repair it because it wasn't on the original work order, and we would have to open a new issue and pay the deductible again in order for him to come back out and fix it.

Then he told me that because we specified a pipe leak and his work order did not say pressure tank leak he could not even look at it because we would have to call and open another ticket and pay another deductible fee for him to come back out and look at it - if it was covered. Now the ice maker has stopped working on the refrigerator. This means that the deductible bill will now be $300 for a warranty that cost $480. Calling a plumber costs an $80 trip charge, and they can fix everything when they get here. Buyer beware - this is NOT worth it. Won't buy another home warranty product again.

Pretty frustrating after spending $1000 on the coverage.

Obviously, I will not be renewing. (I feel like they want to find ways to avoid anything costly to them. They are not interested in putting the customer first.) Fun fact: I talked to a person in their authorizations department and they even agreed that it should be covered... but was then redirected to a different section of the agreement that gave them a loop-hole to get through and deny coverage.

    Original Review: May 22, 2019

When we purchased this home, we requested the sellers include a home warranty, as many appliances were old. They were able to choose the home warranty, which unfortunately meant us getting stuck with AHS. They are by far the worst warranty company... On top of appliances breaking that we find out they don't cover, we also had two very serious plumbing issues, which were listed as covered in our paperwork. We were told they were covered by customer service so we paid the $75 service fee and had a plumber come out. Then they tell us, "Oh actually this isn't covered..." We ended up spending hundreds of dollars out of pocket. Furthermore, this was an emergency service, yet the soonest they could get us a plumber was 24hrs out, even though they said same day.

Then, the plumbing issue happened a second time a day later, this time it was much more dire (quite literally sewage exploding from the toilet) and again they promised same day service and yet could not give that to us. Then this vendor told us they could not help us, that the insurance company would not cover anything he needed to do, and that we were essentially out of luck. Best of all, now we have paid 2 service fees, on top of paying the vendors themselves, and it took a week for everything to get fixed. The home warranty covered NOTHING and just made everything take longer, and cost more since we had to pay the fees.

I am 8 months pregnant and if I knew that they wouldn't cover anything, I could have called my own emergency plumber, and gotten the issue taken care of sooner so that I wasn't exposing myself to the previous owners sewage. It was not only dangerous, but damaged and ruined our closet flooring, the baseboards, our bathroom and many towels...costing us even more money. This company refuses to take responsibility for their terrible customer service, and just ended up costing us more money than if we had done it on our own. If we could drop them and get a refund for our policy we would. DO NOT go with this company.

I needed my faucet repaired or replaced in the kitchen. The plumber denied the claim because the water pressure was too high. He went on to state that the code is 60 psi, and my pressure was 105 psi, and that I needed an expansion tank and pressure regulator valve for a whopping 800.00. After being alarmed and frightened of the dangers that this could pose to my pipes, I had both the tank and valve installed. However, now the water pressure is extremely low in the bathroom, especially after flushing the toilet. I will see how the use of the washer goes today.

The plumber says I need other devices to fix this for an additional cost, and he then informs me to just use one thing at a time. This is completely unacceptable and bad business. I feel like I've been duped every time I take a shower, brush my teeth, or flush the toilet as I hope and wait for the water to get stronger, but it never does. In addition there will be another cost to replace the faucet. All I know is I had no issues until allowing these people in my home.

This is supposed to be a warranty plan correct? My ac system went out so I called in a request. Not only did I have to pay the service fee, I had to pay to have my system replaced. What did the warranty plan pay for? It says, "if it can't be repaired, it will be replaced", yes at the cost of the owner and a discount given by AHS. Also, read the fine print that shows what's not covered because that's where they get over on you. I'm still pissed about having to play 8000 dollars for a new ac system.

    Update 06/21/2019

They sent two different technicians to diagnose my air conditioner - the first one lied about what was wrong to try to sell me a new unit, the second one diagnosed and then refused to do the repair so they sent the first guy out to repair it. I paid $650 out of pocket and it still is not fixed! They offered to refund the $650 since the repairs didn't work, and now trying to say I accepted a cash-in-lieu offer and refuse to get it repaired! The unit is over 30 years old and BOTH companies they sent out stated it needed to be replaced by AHS is too cheap and wants to try to fix it first. THEN they sent me a check for $65.00 instead of $650.00 and won't answer my emails - phone calls are routed to a "customer service rep" who reads from a script and cannot help me AT ALL.

They are scam artists and will use every excuse they can not to cover a repair that is specifically listed on your contract as covered. I was disconnected FOUR times when trying to resolve this issue and never received a call back.

American Home Shield has always been there for me. When there was a leak in my air conditioner, I made a service request early in the morning through the AHS automated system. It was very easy to navigate through and get everything scheduled. I had a technician out here before the end of the same day. He was on time and was very clean. Rain was pouring down over here and he couldn't help some of it, but he tried. He was very professional too. He diagnosed the problem very quickly and had it fixed within about an hour. But I had to pay 200 bucks for the Freon because AHS doesn't cover that. Other than that, my AC has been performing fine. It's hot over here and having the AC working has made life more comfortable. Everything was great.

We most recently had a claim with American Home Shield for a leaking shower repair. The problem started when we moved in. We filed a claim online and it was pretty easy. However, I’m in the midst of a very, very poor experience with the contractor that I was assigned with. I caught them lying to me twice. It took me doing a bunch of investigation on my own to sort of catch them and force them to honor the Home Shield warranty and do the job that they had been contracted to do.

At first, it was an access issue where the shower diverter was behind the tile and the Home Shield warranty didn’t provide access behind the tile. The plumbing company told me that if I wanted them to provide access, it would be $175 out-of-pocket because it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. In a follow-up email, they tried to tell me that that exact same service that they had just said would be $175 was going to be $250. No reason for the sudden price increase. Then after that, I emailed them back asking them when they could come back. I provided the access myself and it wasn’t very hard to do at all. I just had to chisel out some tile and grout around.

The plumbing company responded saying they just got off the phone with American Home Shield who said they weren't gonna cover the rest of the diverter repair. So, it was gonna be $150 out-of-pocket. Without contacting them again, I followed up with American Home Shield and they said no such thing. They said that they had not been contacted since I last spoke to them and that if I had provided access, the diverter repair would be covered. I called the plumbing company out on this and they all of a sudden changed their tune. American Home Shield has been perfectly fine. The website was easy to use and I was able to get ahold of someone in claims approval relatively easily. But sending a shady contractor certainly doesn’t reflect very well on the company.

Filing the claim for the washing machine was easy. However, the same company had to come out 4 times. The first time they came, it took them 3 days after I submitted the claim. They said it worked, but it didn't. They came back out, said it was fixed, but it wasn't. They replaced a whole kinds of parts. Finally they said, "We're not going back. The machine needs to be replaced."

American Home Shield would not replace it so they sent another company out. The first guy came out, ran it, and said it was fine. I said, "There's nothing in it. Of course, it runs fine. The minute you put anything in it, it won't spin." But he said, "Well, it runs fine now. There's nothing I can do." So, he left. And sure enough, we ran another load. My husband finally took a video of what the machine was doing and how loud it was and sent it to American Home Shield. It sounded like it was gonna explode. Nothing was getting cleaned. It wasn't spinning. So they sent another guy out. He took the whole machine apart and said he needed a bolt tightener. He retightened the bolts. The washing machine is working now but this is a six month process we've been going through.

My only complaint was that the technician came out and he didn't leave me any paperwork. Usually, a serviceman comes out, writes up what he found, any areas of concern, and what he did. I ended up getting the paperwork several days later from American Home Shield. The information was pressure readings and everything else. My air conditioner is an older unit. It seemed that it was fine and it wasn’t leaking Freon. The information was standard stuff but I wish that the technician would have left it when he came out to do the service call. I was gone at the time of the service but my wife was still here. Other than that, American Home Shield set everything up properly and that was good. That’s what I have the insurance for.

I've had my policy with American Home Shield for 15 years. I find that a lot of times there are things that need to be brought up to code and there always seems to be some sort of out-of-pocket expense. Something that's not covered. I had a water heater and it cost me outside of $500 to get things brought up to code according to them. On another thing, I paid nearly $1300 out of pocket. For what I get to pay in premiums per month to AHS and the few claims that I made, I could have stuck that money on a savings account and paid for the repairs that I've paid for. All my appliances are new and they're under warranty. I'm not sure if AHS is worth it.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling and I reported it immediately to American Home Shield. It took a day or two before technicians could get out here. My air conditioner is up on the roof. They had to have a guy who had a ladder that could get up to a two-story building. They did the job and were professional. But here's the thing. I had to have Freon of which AHS only covers $10 per pound and the retail price is $80 per pound. I'm at $70 a pound on the Freon. With the new units after 2020, Freon would be kind of outlawed. If these are out right now whatever unit they would replace them with would not be that particular type of unit. It's just a catch-22. I'm not totally dissatisfied with AHS, but I will probably not renew my contract next year.

So, I filed a claim with AHS and another tech came out to do the service. He examined it and did whatever he did back there, then he came back and said that he really could not fix that. He also said that he'd be getting back with AHS and AHS would contact me. It has been tough for the last three months here and I'm not happy.

Making a claim with American Home Shield is a simple process. I had an issue with my garage where one of the cables came loose. It just came upward. It went like clockwork. A guy came and he fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes. AHS got the job done on that one but they didn't on another. We're having a problem with one of my guest bathrooms where there's an odor coming from somewhere and we can't tell where it is. AHS sent a plumber out. He didn't find anything but the problem still persisted. I was told the problem was in the pipe since it's a curved pipe and the water collects in it. That didn't make any sense so I requested that AHS send another plumber. They sent the same guy so the problem was never solved.

I had another issue with my plumbing with my kitchen sink and they sent the same company. It was a kinda wishy-washy situation. I went over the phone with AHS a couple of times regarding this issue. They told me that they'd send somebody different but they didn't. My assumption was that they only use this company for their plumbing service. What good is calling AHS gonna do if they're gonna send the same people who are gonna tell me there's nothing wrong with my plumbing when we know for a fact that there is.

The problem with that is that it's gonna cost me $100 deductible. I'd be really pissed off if they send the same people here again. That's why I'm hesitant on calling them again for the plumbing issue. But that is an issue I have to resolve. The purpose of having the warranty is to not have to pay for the service. Without it, I'd be paying probably 10 times more for someone outside of my warranty. Plumbers aren't cheap. Other than that, I'm satisfied with AHS' pricing.

Still, their contractor, Zerr Appliance Repair did a great job. He checked the icemaker but then didn't do a whole lot because the issue was clearly a problem with the seals on the water filter cartridge. So, he recommended getting a different brand name and the brand name we put in was supposedly compatible with the refrigerator. However, it had a slow drip to it which would get everything wet over a period of time. So, the tech just told us to do the other cartridge which we did. He said there was ice buildup and that I needed a whole new system. But before they could do anything, we got a second opinion from American Home Shield. The gentleman that they sent out never opened up the system. He just used a gauge to check the levels in my unit once the air was turned on, and he said I didn't need a new system. The unit is 32 years old, and it is rusting and leaking. He said that these units are better left untouched, which was odd for me. It was a bit frustrating since I expected the second gentleman to do the whole forensic exam on my air conditioning unit to make sure that it didn't need replacing. We had claims for a washing machine and refrigerator, and we had some electrical work. I submitted the claims online and I got some calls, and within 48 hours, we had the service people out. Both parties that came out were very knowledgeable. They gave us information, did the service job, and cleaned up after themselves. It was excellent. The refrigerator is still up in the air. It was a part that they had not gotten in from Samsung. But they are keeping me informed as to when the part will come in and when they will come back out. So it's not causing any major issues. It's just a little water, but they're working on it. So I'm pleased with that. The only one that really affected me a lot was my washing machine, and that's because I normally like to wash and use it very often. But other than that, there was no issues.

American Home Shield appears to spend a lot of extra money and time on when you have services on your air condition unit. I've been here seven years and I've called six or seven times on my air condition units. We have had maintenance service ourselves out of our pocket that we pay for Freon. We put in doing maintenance ourselves when it's not cooling. We just have seasonal checks because we know that that's required when you call Home Shield. They wanna know if you didn't already pay, had a maintenance done or you're doing maintenance on your units. But it seemed like the people that come out always give you suggestions. But with Home Shield, you never take the advice that has been presented, even if it's in writing, and we have paid for it out of our pocket. The unit is a bad unit, and to me, it's not good money. It's bad money when you pay $95 or $100. But we paid for a $75.

It is like a rotating situation, especially when I'm having to pay $875 for an electric bill, because my unit is not doing what it's supposed to do. The unit needs to have a changing of the parts, and Home Shield keeps trying to piecemeal it together. That's the only issue that I have, but that has not been enough to have me to switch the policy. But that is one annoyance that I signed.

I've been with Home Shield since I've been owning a home back in 1996 when I was in Texas. And it was always the same thing there as well. I have written them letters to that effect. When we were in Texas, I banged a pipe and something was not up-to-date, so we had to come out of pocket with that, but we were not aware of that. So Home Shield needs to go more in detail, and people wouldn't get so annoyed. Even with the annoying situations, it seems like I still have a better deal in some cases. I still recommend American Home Shield.

Updated on 05/23/2019: I called again today after I did not get a call back as promised yesterday concerning a follow up. This follow up was due to it being the 9th day after your technician came out and did a diagnostic on our unit. Today I was told the service call had been “escalated” to an advanced team member who was going to call me back. This was the same team member who promised she would call me back by 4pm today to let me know what would happen next. Due to my frustration of being without air conditioning for 10 days now I asked for my service fee and a pro rated amount of my membership fee back so I could contact my own contractor. I was then told I have to wait 24-48 hrs to get a call back about this “escalated” service call. I have already wait 10 days....and you want me to wait another 2.

You have to have the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 27 years of life. I hope NO one else falls victim to your horrible company. I am going to spread this review around as much as I can to prevent anyone else from doing so. Oh and I’ll be waiting for this technician recall and advanced members call. Don’t worry I’ll keep everyone up to date on how horrible this continues to go.

Original review: I have been having a problem with my A/C and we submitted a request for service. They sent out RAPPS Heating and Air whose technician appeared to be impaired on drugs. The technician recommended a replacement and told us not to have the coolant re-filled because it would be a waste of money (that was on a Monday). I called several days later because the tech said American Home Shield would call us and we hadn't heard from them. They told me the tech hadn't submitted a diagnosis yet but was supposed to by the next day. I called again two days later and was told they still didn't have it, RAPPS would call me.

I waited another day and called RAPPS who said the person over it would call me back since they were out to lunch. I called back 5 hours later because I had not received a call and was told that person was gone for the day and would hopefully call me back tomorrow (it is now Tuesday of the next week). I have been waiting 9 days including the 24 hour response time the contractor has to have my A/C fixed and there is no sign it will be fixed in the next couple days either. I want my service fee back and my yearly fee because obviously this company just ripped me off and took $700 from me and I have gotten nothing in return. Also they need to take RAPPS off their contractor list because obviously they can't handle the volume and have horrible customer service.

My solution is to pay out of my own pocket to get service in a timely manner and go through arbitration to receive back the full purchase price of the "Insurance" and additional funds to compensate pain and suffering. I made one call to a local AC service company and they will be out today. That's what I would have expected from American Home Shield but that is NOT the case.

Why should it matter is it’s the SAME ISSUE THEY NEVER FIXED?? Unacceptable. Read the fine print before you sign with this company. The power of social media, ty!

You will talk to a different associate each time you call and they will not provide you with a direct line to avoid this. The same goes for the technician trying to do your repairs, even they have been unable to avoid hour long holds/conversations that go nowhere. Do not use this company, they are a scam!

My 10+ year old washing machine broke and AHS claims it was "overloaded" and isn't covered because it's not normal wear and tear. That's ridiculous. They have no idea how I load my machine (we don't stuff it) and the buffer between the two drums is precisely what wears out over time on a front loader. It's the very definition of wear and tear. Kenmore says front loaders should last 10-15 years, which is the age of my machine. They were fine on the smaller claims but now when we really need the warranty they find a way to weasel out of it. This is their scam to get out of covering an appliance. Buyer beware.

This whole experience was a complete nightmare. We moved into our new home with the assurance from our realtor that AHS would cover any unforeseen complications. The very first day we started the AC unit we were dismayed to learn that it didn't operate at all. We called AHS and they scheduled one of their contractors to come look at it later in the week. The HVAC guy arrived several days later and told us that the unit was beyond repair and that the whole system needed to be replaced.

Several sweltering days and nights later we heard back from AHS. They refused to cover the whole replacement cost but offered to repair the unit. Given the age of the system this seemed like an exercise in futility. It had leaked all the Freon somewhere and it wasn't ever determined where plus it was past its life expectancy. In the end AHS did agree to pay $800 towards a replacement unit leaving us with the remainder of the bill.

At this point we were two weeks into living here and it's heating up every day. By mid afternoon the house gets pretty warm and really doesn't cool off until midnight. We're hot and miserable and now we're scrambling to find a way to finance this additional cost. Desperate to fix the problem we went ahead with the replacement option and had to get yet another loan to cover this unexpected expense. The warranty was a joke! We were left to fix this ourselves while the seller and realtors took off with their money. Very disappointing to say the least.

I cancelled my contract over the phone three months ago. Incredibly they had no record of this. I called several times and got told they would cancel the outstanding amount. INSTEAD they took me to collections!!!! When I called them about this and tried to speak to a manager I was put on hold, no manager came on the line, I even stayed on hold deliberately for as long as I could, a total of 24 minutes. Also as an after note, when we did need to use their services the technicians they sent always tried to up sell, once stating we needed a new AC unit when the one we had was only two years old. Again PLEASE stay away.

But last year when our AC went out, in the middle of the summer in Louisiana it took 3 weeks for them to approve the repairs. A year later and the same people (the replaced compressor was done incorrectly so it’s shot again) and guess what, it’s been 2 weeks and still no fix. Every time we call AHS they tell us it will be another 24-48 hrs before someone will reach out to us, but no one has called yet. We just keep calling every 2 days. We will NEVER get them again.

I saw some frost on the outside of my unit, and so I called American Home Shield. But previous to that, I had the VIP service come, and they said everything was checked out. I hadn't even turned on the system yet because it still was not warm enough to even doing it. And they said everything was in working order. Then as soon as I turned it on when it was sunny outside, it stopped. I went outside. I saw the unit and it has frost on it. I called Greenway, and they said they couldn't get to it until the day they came. When they came, they realized what it was. They put more Freon which cost me a great deal of money, and they didn't say it wasn't covered. They said anything could have happened since the VIP checked it out. It was very upsetting to me. And I told them I needed to speak to a supervisor because they had someone come out and tell me everything is okay. And then when I turned it on, it was not.

The contractor fixed it. He said, "Oh, okay. I see what it is. We're gonna put Freon and two pounds of Freon," and he charged me that money. He said AHS would only charge $210 for it. Last summer, it took all summer until September for them to get this air conditioner running correctly. And I stuck with all summer because they never could get it fixed. And then they finally figured out what it was. They fixed it, but it was September. I won't have that same issue as last year because everything in here should be running. The compressor has been replaced. Everything is ready to go. And then I have this situation. All I saw that he did was put in two pounds of Freon. Then I called them and said, "Listen, I don't think that I should have to pay for the Freon. I had all paid last summer and didn't use it." And they said I had to pay $210. And they're charging me a $100 for the service cost, as supposed to it being a recall.

Home Shield was fine. What they charge is up to Greenway. And Greenway told me that's their charge. And they were not going to change that, give a discount or anything else because that's what it is to them. And I couldn't understand why I couldn't have gotten at least some kind of discount between AHS and Greenway being since I'm on a fixed income. I would recommend Home Shield. The company is good to me. I'm not upset with Home Shield and I'm not trying to ding Greenway. It's just that they're saying because equipment can break down at any moment, they couldn't give me a discount. But as far as them fixing it or coming out, they were excellent.

Usually, American Home Shield has been good. Most of the time, their techs come out and do excellently. However, for my recent claim for my rental property's air system, they weren't. I got a tune-up and the techs said the air conditioner is on its way out. I put a claim in to AHS. However, AHS's reps sounded like they were from Taiwan and the person whom I was speaking with couldn't understand what I needed to get done. I wanted to speak to a supervisor maybe to expedite the situation, but she couldn’t figure it out. I needed the AC fixed asap and she couldn't understand that. She wanted other information which didn't make any difference. So, I ended up canceling it and paying for it myself.

The person who came out for the air conditioner was fine. However, AHS sends people to look at the units and those people always say that they can't fix the issue or they can only fix it if the unit is gonna die. I don't understand why customers have to wait until the unit is completely broken. I've never had a problem with AHS before and I have had many properties with them. Still, this has been a frustrating experience for me because I can't afford to have my unit down for summertime when that’s where I make my money.

I had an over the stove microwave which was quite old. The contractor American Home Shield assigned was gonna come out and they didn't but when they did, they said it was working. I told them the tenant who just left and the tenant I just put in there said it wasn't. It works initially for the first couple of minutes, but then it doesn't continue. They argued with me about that and then, they went out again and said it works. This went on and on. I ended up having to buy a tabletop microwave for them because it got to be such a long, drawn out affair. Then, they finally made the determination after I got Rick, my representative, involved. They made the decision to replace it and that turned into a whole thing about the warehouse and they didn't have it. It finally got taken care of a couple of weeks ago. And this started on February.

I have all three of my houses with AHS, two of them are rentals, and I always use AHS. I've had other experiences with them like with a garage door spring that popped. The guy came right out and fixed them and he was great. So, I was so flabbergasted by this experience with the microwave. It really ticked me off that they wouldn't take my word for it, after all, I have a history with them. I'm not some sort of person out of the woodwork. Also, the communication was terrible. Trying to get through on the telephone to them was a nightmare because it took 20, 30 minutes. They have that recording about how important my call is and I was thinking, "Well, if it's that important, get some more people to answer your damn phone." But it's all taken care of now and they're very patient. Maybe that was the worst that would ever happen.

I was told I would hear from a contractor within 48 hours. But the first company that they sent to us never called. I reported that to American Home Shield. The first company called and said they would be here the next day but they never showed up. I called American Home Shield in the morning of the fourth day and they had someone out here about two hours later. AHS' part that was in their control was done very well.

The second contractor was great. He was a great communicator and he let me know that something happened personally. His mom came down to stay with him and her dog got hit, so he had to take his mom to the vet. He was gonna be a little bit late after he got the part. He let me know that he was on his way and took care of the issue.

We just moved into this house. We moved from an apartment where all three of us could take a shower. Nobody ran out of hot water. But we were running out of hot water here. It's probably due to a different size tank and a different brand. The technician turned the water temperature up and the temperature increased. I didn't realize that it would be something that simple.

AHS would not help me, after four days of no shower I called a plumber and fixed the water heater, cost me $1200 when I should have been protected.

This is poor service on their part but I needed to be clean and they refused to pay me back. Warning to others how I was treated here! I now have water pipes leaking from my pool and had to call them again. This time I was in the system so have been waiting for a tech to show up now for two weeks so not very fast service here. I will write another review when the work is done, if anything gets fixed and see how it goes, so far not so bueno and may go to the BBB next and request a full refund. If they don't protect me then why did I waste a grand for peace of mind....

I been a customer of AHS for over 20 years and my latest experience has left me bitter and ready to move in to another warranty company. AHS sent an incompetent repair company A1-Advance to my home. They diagnosed the problem but their customer service was horrible and the technology and administration quoted two different prices for the work to be completed. Contacted AHS and they charged me for a second opinion and is forcing me to use the incompetent company or do a buyout if the new company findings are the same. I’m sure they will be but I don’t want the A1-Advance to do the work. I was told because they were the most cost effective to AHS, I didn’t have a choice. Of course the incompetent company would be the most cost effective. I’ve never been treated so poorly by this company. It saddens me that they don’t appreciate customer loyalty.

This service if you can call it a service is a huge misrepresentation of what is covered if not completely false advertising. The brochure says the heating system is covered but when I called about my chimney I learned that is not part of the heating system. The brochure says the septic system is covered. When I had a problem with my septic I learned only one a specific part of the septic system was covered.

At this point I am considering legal action for the misrepresentation of this coverage. I will not only never recommend American Home Shield (AHS) to others. I will adamantly campaign against others purchasing this so called coverage. It is a huge waste of money. I would compare it to a warranty on a vehicle that in the fine print stated the warranty only covers issues that happen on the second Tuesday of months on a lunar eclipses. Absolutely the worst thing I have ever purchased. Not to mention when you call you never get a person who speaks English.

My elderly parents had a problem with their air conditioner unit in Shreveport, Louisiana. American Home Shield sent a technician to their home. He told them the coils on their unit needed to be replaced and that there was no Freon in their unit. They were told it would cost $1700 to repair. They decided to get a second opinion and were told there was nothing wrong with the coils and that the unit had plenty of Freon. American Home Shield uses companies so desperate for business that they think nothing of defrauding even senior adults. My husband and I had the same type experience in another state. Do not use these scammers.

My HVAC has been broken for three weeks with the issue still unresolved. The first servicer AHS had sent out to diagnose the problem was there for no more than 5 minutes and simply said to put in more Freon, told me that I would have to pay $225 to pump it back up on the spot as AHS would only cover $10/lb of refrigerant while I paid the rest... How could I know it wouldn't leak? Refrigerant is not supposed to leak. It should never have to be recharged. If it does, there is a leak somewhere in the system. He did not diagnose anything further to look into why or where there was a leak. His solution was to simply add in more refrigerant.

I requested a second servicer who then recommended the whole unit be replaced. I was pleased to hear this as our unit is 15 years of age at least, perhaps older, and he told us it was so old that he couldn't even find parts to it anymore to fix it if he wanted to. Despite this recommendation from the second servicer, it has been a week since AHS got the "report" that they have claimed hasn't arrived to them yet. Yet our servicer told us they sent it to them at least 5 times already.

I requested the matter be promoted to a supervisor, and he has been nothing but useless in pushing the resolution along. I have been told I would be called back three times on a given following day, and all three times I was not contacted. I have had to contact them over and over...and over again...and yet, I still do not have my HVAC system fixed or a new one installed. Imagine three weeks in the summer heat in your house with no A/C. AHS doesn't care about you or your satisfaction - all they care about is your money and trying to fix things the cheapest way possible without doing what is the right thing to do for the customer.

I even had an electrical issue a few months ago that just turned out to be an issue with the local power company getting the electricity to the house, but I thought I may have had house wiring problems...I called AHS the day I noticed these electrical issues, and I was told that a servicer would call me the next day to set up an appointment to check it out. No one ever called.

I was charged the $75 service call fee, and I never received any service. Not even poor service. My contractor did not even call me...I had to call three separate times later to AHS to explain to them that no one called or showed up, and I had to call three separate times to get them to refund my $75 they charged me up-front for having done nothing in the first place. I will never be using AHS in the future. I have had nothing but a host of headaches, problems, and unresolved issues with them that I have personally had to fix on my own accord. Don't fall for their customer service bit that they put on. It's one giant scam.

We had an issue with our condensation pump. It was burned out so it was shutting off electrical to the air conditioning unit. I always submit a claim with America Home Shield online and it's good. They assign you someone fairly quickly. They assign the time too. I was gonna be out of town so I had called them to let them know about that. The vendor that AHS assigned my case to worked with me on the out-of-town time. Their technician came while I was out of town and fixed the problem.

I had interactions with the individual that was on the way to fix the unit and there was a slight mix-up on the time. I was down in Florida and I received a phone call saying that he was gonna be about an hour out. I called him back and told him how to get in the house, what to look for, and what was going on. He took it from there. It was very good how he handled the situation. He was quick to follow up, called me back, said the unit was working, there were no issues, described exactly what he had done, and let himself out. The unit has been working great and there have been no problems.

It's a new season and it'shot outside but my air conditioning unit was not cooling. There was a main electrical contact that kicks on and that made the compressor kick on. It was faulty. I tried to file a claim with American Home Shield online but it would not submit, so I picked up the phone and I called the toll free number. I then asked for a specific contractor. I was given a timeframe between 10:00 and 2:00. The technician was right there by 10:20. The one who came was the same gentleman who came out last time and he remembered me.

One of the reasons why I asked for him was because he was very good about explaining what he was doing. I'm a bit mechanical. And because of that, I wanted to make sure that they were doing their job. He would explain things very well to the point where I could have left him here at the house. He showed me the part that he replaced and why it had gone bad. Unfortunately, he had to do the repair in the middle of the rainy season. I had a large patio umbrella that we put out for him to stand under to keep him dry. He lifted it off of my patio, put it there and put it back.

The contractor worked on my AC last year and I assumed that it was having the same problem but it was a different one. Their guy still fixed the problem. The company truly deserves a very good recommendation. They did a great job. The guy was very professional. He had unclean shoes and he wouldn’t even come in the house without putting the little slippers on. I told him he had not even been in the dirt so he could just have his regular shoes on. But he said it was policy. He was very polite, friendly and informative.

My AC has been perfect. I am certainly cool all the time. There are no worries in my household whether or not I would have to come home to sleep in the heat. It's supposed to be about 95 today and very muggy. American Home Shield has provided excellent service and professionalism. I'm hoping that if I ever have any other problems, I can continue to ask for the contractor I used and AHS would keep them as a vendor.

I had a water pipe that bust in the wall upstairs and I needed somebody immediately to fix it ‘cause I had just spent a lot on repairs. The person that came out could not fulfill the obligation as I would've had to wait three to five more days, which would’ve been a issue. I called AHS and told them, “Never mind, I found somebody that could come out and do it that day.” They would not even talk to me about reimbursement. For the most part, a couple of the contractors that American Home Shield has sent have been pretty knowledgeable. When the ball valves were not working properly for the pool plumbing, it took the contractor about 3 days to get scheduled out. There were 2 separate issues and we had to deal with 2 different contractors. The first contractor fixed one issue completely. There were three pipes that have ball valves and he wanted to argue with my wife that all three were working. She had to show him that they weren’t. He only replaced one ball valve at that time.

We did a recall for him to come out and do it again because the ball valves couldn’t be turned without extreme force. I could not budge them at all. He came out and it was like I was the wimp. He was able to get them to move because he was that much stronger in built. He said because he could move them, they were operational. But they still couldn't function ‘cause we still couldn’t move them. That’s when we requested that another company come out and look at the situation. The second company came out and attested that they weren’t operating the way they were supposed to be so they replaced the other two valves.

I called AHS about it and they were pretty good. They said a contractor would contact me but in the long run, I contacted the contractor which was not a problem. They were very quick to fit me in their schedule. They got here in time before it started to get hot. The first technician came within 24 hours of talking to them.

One of the guys who came seemed kinda young but he seemed nice. There's just a difference in younger people and older people. Otherwise, they seemed like they knew what they were doing and were very respectful of the cleanliness of the house. They were not traipsing through where our area was any more than they needed to and it was very good. They more or less completed the task. They told me that that they put in Freon that had some kind of sealant to help with the leak. So far, The AC has been perfectly fine.

We were very satisfied. We got help with our problem right away. The one thing that was harder was because it was with the warranty, the technicians had to come in two steps. They had to come and find the problem then I had to call and have them come back to fix the problem. If I were paying out of my pocket, they would've fixed it right there. But I understand now that you can’t just have people do whatever they want with the warranty.

I switched to American Home Shield because they gave us more coverage for less cost per annum. So, even though the co-pay is a little bit more with American Home Shield, it is well worth it because I paid a $50 co-pay with the other company, but my microwave and washer and dryer weren’t covered. Also, it is wonderful that I'm able to submit the claim online without having to call or wait on the line. It is pretty seamless and the third party will call within 24 to 48 hours to schedule a time for the service.

I recently had a leak on the bathtub, and the contractor that American Home Shield sent out was wonderful. When the tech came in originally, he thought he was gonna have to cut through the tile which would not have been covered under my policy. I explained to him that it was an expense that I was not expecting and then he really went out of his way and found another way to go through the wall. He also told me that under my warranty, American Home Shield would even bring somebody to patch up the wall at no extra cost to me. I was really, really appreciative because it was gonna be really expensive.

When he was about to cut through the wall, he told me that technically he was not supposed to do this, but because he had the necessary equipment, he would take care of it instead of me having to bring someone else to do it and for him to come back. He was a very, very kind person and really went out of his way to try to make sure that the issue was resolved at little cost to me and at little inconvenience to me as possible. I was happy with how concerned he was when he saw that I was stressed out about the added cost. I was amazed by him. He did an amazing job and really helped me out.

The leak was in my kids' bathroom so they are happy now to have the use of their bathroom back. The faucet was leaking 24/7 so our water bill gone up exponentially. So now I'm happy I don’t have all the wasted added expenses of having water leakage. I’m really glad that the tech sorted it out because there was no telling it was a defective valve. So, there’s no telling if maybe down the line, it might have just exploded or let two of the pipes exploding and it would cost even more damage to the property. So, I'm grateful to have it fixed.

I always pay my co-pay fee online. When I did an online order to have some work done on my dryer, they charged me the fee but I ended up not needing that service and I canceled it. They told me they were gonna refund me the fee but I haven't seen it come across. That’s the only issue that I have with them. I wasn’t sure on how long that normally takes, but it’s been a while. But overall, I'm so happy that I made the decision to purchase American Home Shield. I love American Home Shield. I recommend it to anyone that is a homeowner because it really does take the guesswork out of those unexpected repairs. You always feel protected. Original Review: May 19, 2019

I've had several versions of AHS coverage plans over 2 homes. I say, with zero reservation, that this product is more headache than it is worth (and that includes a *free* plan that came with the purchase of my new home).

    1) Availability of Contractors/Service Professionals - If you're ready to wait up to a week to have a refrigerator serviced, then get ready to spend thousands replacing food. AHS doesn't care about this fact. If they wanted a true consumer product, they'd work with you to match a service professional that has availability related to the urgency of the situation (This has happened 2x now - once with a furnace in the middle of winter and once with a refrigerator).

    2) Selection of Contractors - The business model they choose attracts less than professional service professionals. Three times in my experience, a service company is chosen that is located NOWHERE near where I live and when the technician arrives, they cannot fix anything in the first visit or on that first day. I will balance this by saying that, for whatever reason, when it comes to plumbing related service requests, I always did get solid contractors who did what was needed to be done onsite. NEVER for an appliance or a home system.

    3) Policy - The diagnosis always puts the burden on the contract holder. In my most recent example, a wire came loose on a refrigerator in the ice machine and got wrapped around the ice crusher. AHS claimed that this was my fault and would not cover it. I had no way to know that a wire came loose. I had no way to know that it would get wrapped around the ice auger. I had no way to know it would break. But when I needed them most, AHS failed to answer the call again. I waited 5 days for a technician's first available appointment. He then waited 1 full day to submit his diagnosis (Day 6 without keeping food from spoiling). On day 8, two full days later and WITH NO communication from AHS, my claim was denied. I was told I could get a second opinion with another $75 service fee and no guarantee the decision would change.

    4) Communication - It is clear to me that AHS and OTHER home warranty companies (could be the same with different brand names in different markets, who knows...?) use the SAME customer service and therefore customer service does NOT care if an AHS customer is satisfied. Because they're contractors working on behalf of AHS, you get zero call backs, zero emails. I always have to call back in days after I was supposed to receive a communication. In those interactions, 9 times out of 10, I have to re-explain the issue from scratch.

I will never renew this product and am considering my legal options for my most recent negative event.

They offered $195 to replace a 25 year old air conditioning unit - really? We’ve been with them over 10 years - the customer service was terrible and when I said I was cancelling they could have cared less. Beware of what they will really pay for which is little to nothing.

When we first moved into our home, our air conditioner wasn’t working right from the get-go. We ended up with American Home Shield through our title company. It was who they suggested, so we just followed their lead and what they said was best for us. And so, I called and I told the warranty company about what was going on with our air conditioner, and they scheduled an appointment to send somebody out.

They sent Texas Best Heating & Air out. I wasn’t home when they came to fix it. My parents were at our house watching our kids for us while my husband and I were out. My dad said the guy was really friendly, really nice, and was quick and efficient, and our air conditioner is working fine now. Apparently, the motor was broken.

American Home Shield have some great contractors. I called and submitted my claims for the washing machine and refrigerator. Both of the contractors were able to fix the problem. One claim was a bit of a hassle because the tech came back four different times, but he was great the whole time, and everything worked out really well. I also submitted a claim for the garage door and it took two and a half weeks to get fixed. But it wasn’t a big deal. The snow is gone, so I was okay with it. All of them work perfectly now.

I have recommended American Home Shield to everybody, because I had them at my first house, and now, at my second house. I’ve been a customer of American Home Shield for under six years, and they have always been absolutely amazing to work with. If something was rejected, it was a legitimate rejection. They have been wonderful.

I’m satisfied with American Home Shield. My experience has been very good. I filed a claim over the phone to get my A/C fixed, and it was simple for me. I like to talk to somebody because I can write names down and everything like that anytime we get our call. The contractor from Thermodynamic came on that Monday. I called them Saturday. And then it rained on Sunday all day. I called my insurance company and they put all this equipment in to dry that area out and cut my carpet up. Then he came Tuesday because he had to see what was going on. And then he had to bring what he needed to put up there. And that was when he found out that the switch like AB was to C. It should have been to B.

Apparently, when the gentleman replaced the air unit outside, he found the issue and I had to call the other warranty people that we had and find out what company came to install that air handler. So when the water filled up, it should automatically cut off, but it didn’t cut off. When they put it in, they didn’t have the wires connected properly. So that caused a leak in my home in the ceiling, and carpet, and everything. So I had Thermodynamic write a letter indicating what he found, and I had to give that to my insurance company. Nothing with the A/C is leaking. I’m just waiting for a contractor to come in and do what he needs to do to repair everything that needs to be put back. I like American Home Shield, and I like Thermodynamic. Next time I have a problem with my A/C, I want him to come back because he knows what he’s doing.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a problem with my toilet and the contractor who took care of it was good. He was very professional. He also gave me a break and I paid him a discounted price to remove the toilet and see where the connecting plumbing was so he can put his scope down there. He had to come back and it was a couple of days, but I understood he was busy. However, he couldn’t take care of it that day because he had to get prior approval from American Home Shield and I’m not happy with them.

American Home Shield gave me the runaround and I asked to talk to a supervisor. It took four days for one to call me back and they found a way to escape by saying they don’t provide access to the problem, that if the contractor required something else, they were not paying for it. To get access, I had to pay my own $375 and I was upset with that. What am I having them for if they can’t approve the guy who looked at our toilet so he can use a scope and see if there was any problem? I’ve been a customer for five years. I’ve called three or four times and every first of the month, they yank my premium, $62 for five years. That’s a lot of money I’ve put in to that place.

I was having an issue with the microwave wherein it stopped working. There was also an issue with one of the burners on my stove that wouldn't change settings. You turn it on and it just had one setting. It goes straight to high no matter what you set the dial to and it would never cut off. It came a little inconvenient. I made a claim with American Home Shield and did it online. It was pretty easy. It had a list of things with the sublist. There was also a part where you could describe exactly what was happening. Once you did that, you pay your $100 fee and hit submit. I got a call from the company that was selected within the next 30 minutes.

The time the contractor came out depended on my schedule. They came out the next Friday because I was out of town. They asked me what was best for me which I thought was pretty great. I told them I would be flying in Thursday night and asked if Friday morning was okay which it was. They gave me a time range of 8:00 to 12:00 and the technician showed up at 8:10. He took about 20 minutes to diagnose the problem and explained that to me which was great. He told me the parts that he needed. He asked me if I ever dealt with Samsung, which is what my microwave is as well as my washer and dryer. It takes three weeks and sometimes a month for parts. I was okay with that.

But by chance, they got the parts in that next week. As soon as the parts came in, he gave me a call and wanted to find out what my schedule was because he already knew that I work out of town. I told him I was gonna be back Friday. He showed up Friday morning again to complete the job and he was done within 10 minutes. And two weeks, you don't get that anywhere, especially with the previous company that I was with. I'm pretty happy with what Home Shield did. Everything is working. It looks normal from when we first had it. I saved a lot of money instead of having to go out and buying something new.

I made a plumbing claim with American Home Shield for an injector pump. I do my claims online and the process is easy, but the site doesn’t have the ability to add additional claim for similar type of things. So, if I had two faucets that had a problem, it wouldn’t allow me to put in that there were two. It would just let me check a faucet, and then when the contractor shows up, they’d say, “Well, it’s not on the order.” So, AHS could add that option. Also, I generally have felt the quality of people that have been sent out haven’t been great. So, if I have a bigger project, sometimes I had taken care of it myself versus calling. The contractor that was sent for the injector pump was fine. He wasn’t able to get it fixed, but we actually are selling our home on Monday. So, we’re not gonna use AHS anymore.

I was having power issues, where the pump would throw the breaker. American Home Shield sent out Knock Out Pools and I had some scheduling issues on my end. It took a little while to get them out, then we had some rain. It wasn’t anything on their end, but once they got out, it was great. The technician was there not even for two hours, and the problem was resolved. Everything was fixed and ready to go.

I had Cowtown Pools out last year and they were good. Knock Out Pools was really good this year too, so I had good experiences with them. Earlier on, with Home Shield, we had somebody come out for AC issues and it was kinda the whole process of using the warranty company, where they wanna try to do things before they replaced parts, which I get that it is part of the process. It took a while, but eventually the issue was resolved, and the AC is still working great to this day. Submitting claims is usually really, really easy. I just log on and hit a couple of buttons and somebody calls me, so it is pretty simple. I’ve heard horror stories from other warranty companies, but I haven’t had anything bad with Home Shield. I would recommend them.

The claims process at American Home Shield is a little bit difficult because they need two opinions before they can make a move on whatever it is that you have going on. And that may take another 24 to 48 hours, or a little longer, depending on the contractor's schedule. When I had a claim with the microwave, this one company came out and they couldn't find the door to go on it. But then I had to wait until another company came out and they couldn't find the door. Then they just replaced it. But I had already looked for the door myself with the company that made the microwave, and they said that they didn't have any replacement part for the door. It takes a little longer to get the claim finalized, but it works out eventually, and the contractors have been pretty good. I've had pretty good experience with American Home Shield, and if I had to recommend anybody to the company, I would.

In December, my oven broke. I called Home Shield and they sent out Accord Appliance. Accord Appliance came out several times. Each time, they brought a refurbished thing to replace my oven with. So, then they'd take it back, and couple weeks later, they'd come out again. One time, they put it in. It still didn’t work. They came at least the fourth time at that point. All of a sudden, like a week later, the oven started working. So, I called and told them that. It only worked for about a week and then I called them back and told them it wasn’t working again. Finally, the last thing they did was ordered a brand-new part and tried to put it in, and it didn’t work. I should’ve called Home Shield sooner. But I finally called them, told them about it, and they sent out another company who looked at it. Two weeks later, they were back putting the brand-new one in and it works. I went without an oven for four months.

I have had this type of experience with Accord Appliance before, so Home Shield might want to not give me Accord Appliance anymore when I call. They did not answer their phone ever. And the receptionist couldn't care less. The guy that works for Accord Appliance tried so hard to make that oven work, and it just wasn’t working.

Other than that, the contractors were all very nice. And Home Shield seemed to get the people out here. They make an appointment a whole week later and then they come out. And they were just gonna tell you, “This is what's wrong with it. We have to order the parts,” so it’ll be another two weeks. They could speed that up. I know Amazon can get parts to me the next day when I order them, so I don’t know why it takes the other places two weeks to get a part.

It wouldn't light up at all. The tech never even got up there to look at the outlet, which I thought was strange. He just told me to get bulbs and that American Home Shield doesn't cover bulbs, which I understand. I got some bulbs and put them in. And now, the light fixture in the house, the button that I push to turn the floodlight on and off, it stays on constantly. So I have to shut the circuit breaker off to shut the floodlights off. But they are lighting up. It is so weird.

I had to call the tech to come back because he didn't put the panel back. He left all the wires and the electrical panel in the garage. He just forgot about it. He did come right back and put that on. It seemed like his mind was somewhere else, and he just wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. I wasn't impressed with this contractor.

American Home Shield has been very easy to work with. I've had other people that they hired that have been fabulous. One of the outlets with the pendant light couldn't be fixed. So the tech said that he was going to send American Home Shield some information on the cost of a pendant light because it has to be replaced. We are currently dealing with our heat pump that went out. It has been not near as easy a process as a couple of minor problems that we had before. The claims that we had for the dishwasher and the sump pump went very well. But it has been much more of a struggle with the heat pump. American Home Shield sent out one company that said the heat pump was no longer viable, so it needed to be replaced.

They sent out a second company for a second opinion who also said it needed to be replaced. We went through a couple of weeks of back and forth with them. We supposedly were all approved with the second company for the heat pump, and then we waited, and they were supposed to call us. They never called us. It was about seven or eight days in a row that we called American Home Shield. They said they were almost there and that they would get back with us and give us all of the breakdowns and everything on what our portion of the cost were. But nobody ever called. The last time that we got a hold of them, they told us that they were gonna send out another company.

When the third company came out, the guy told us that they were gonna repair it. So he looked at it, did not come prepared to even test the system and said that they were gonna replace one of the parts then go from there. American Home Shield told us that that was what they were gonna do and that we were going to be responsible to pay $1,000 for Freon to charge the system. We weren't just having a charge to increase the capacity of the system. They were going to just repair it. Our concern was the guy had not tested the rest of the system and we're gonna pay $1,000 to put this Freon in, and then they're gonna try to make it work and if it leaks somewhere else, then we're gonna start messing around with it every couple of weeks. Somebody was gonna have to come out and start fixing it again.

We finally convinced American Home Shield that we needed to have a new system. They offered us cash-in-lieu of that we could have our own contractor go ahead and do it. The cash-in-lieu that they offered us is $2,500. And the nearest cost that we could come up with from a local person was $5,500. They told us that they would replace the system, but we still had to pay $3,600, which is the cost with their company. We chose to do the cash-in-lieu of and go with the company that was local and less expensive than their company.

Two of the contractors were pretty poor. They did not come prepared and they had no flashlights to even look at things. The third one that came out supposed to have some sort of gas to inject into the system so that they could check for leaks, but he didn't have it. He told us that his buddy had borrowed the canister a week ago. He didn't have the gas with him to check the system and then he determined that it could be repaired without even checking it out. But the person from the second company was very knowledgeable. He went through everything with us, and he was good. We appreciated all of his input. He came out twice to answer questions and to relook at things. But they were coming from almost 50 miles away. Unfortunately, his cost to repair the system included additional labor because they had to travel so far.

It's been a long process and we've been without any kind of heat or air conditioning for almost two months now. The other little things were fine, but when it comes to something major, we will probably go ahead and cancel our policy with American Home Shield after this is done. I don't see a huge advantage to having this home warranty which we were really disappointed. We knew it was an older system and that was the main reason that we had a home warranty in the house. So now, I have to be dealing with this. This has not been our ideal outcome.

I asked if I could speak to someone who speaks English and after they talked a bit, I asked if I could talk to their supervisor. The rep then told me that the supervisor was with another customer and that they could help me. However, they couldn't understand what I was saying. I tried explaining to them and finally, they got it.

The techs who came made sure everything was clean. They stayed again so they could find out the problem but then they couldn't fix it. They said they had to rewire as the hot and the cold air was coming out of it. They told me they were gonna come back and then American Home Shield would call me and leave me a text that the contractors were coming back. They came back on schedule like they promised. Since the repair, the AC has been well. I thought one time that I felt the heat coming out. But then I’ve been watching it closely and I haven't had that again.

The repair has made day-to-day life better. It was hot and miserable where I was. The highest temperature during the weekend is 101. I have asthma, so when the weather’s that hot, I really can’t go outside ‘cause it just feels like I can’t breathe. So, that’s why I have to make sure my air was right. I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield. I am a real estate agent and I refer this home warranty company. I have it on my own personal home and I put it on all my clients’ homes. I had my parents have it on five of their properties. But they were a complete nightmare to deal with for this particular claim with my wine cooler. I kept telling them, “Can you please tell the company you’re sending over that brand of what they’re there to repair so we can make sure they can repair it.” It was a nightmare, but everything’s fine now.

Apparently, the compressor on the wine cooler is out, and so they’re repairing that. It’s still not fixed. But the issue was just a communication breakdown. I couldn’t get anybody to understand what I needed, and I don’t have a lot of time to sit at home for six hours for their window of when they’re gonna send somebody over. It was a long process just to get somebody out there. And so, I was just trying to explain to them we need to mainstream this because this is a problem when I’m trying to refer them out. I have clients that work out of the home. If they’re gonna stay at home and wait for a repairman, that repairman needs to be prepared.

It took two weeks to get somebody that was qualified out to the home. And they were amazing, and they’re coming back because they had to order the part. The other issue was like when I was calling, the AHS reps didn’t speak very good English, and so, there was a huge communication breakdown there. And so, when I asked to speak to a manager in charge, the person I was speaking to did not let me speak to anybody above him. And I wasn’t complaining about him, I just needed to speak to somebody that I could speak to and we could communicate and understand each other, and he did not wanna transfer me. So, that ended up being an hour and a half conversation because he kept saying, “I can take care of you. I can take care of you.”

I’ve had American Home Shield for four years on my home, and I don’t make a lot of claims. It’s just a safety net for me to make me feel comfortable knowing that I have something in case something major breaks, and I have my clients choose the same company. I tell them always to renew. I would still recommend American Home Shield.

The credit card used to purchase the plan was not my credit card, which is why I requested the check when I cancelled the plan in the first place. I cannot go to the agent, who’s credit card it is, that purchased the plan. I spoke with a supervisor on the situation and she was very rude, cut me off when I was speaking, and hung up on me when I asked her to go ahead and speak. Why did two reps tell me the check was on its way when really they refunded the credit card that was not mine? Bad customer service, would not recommend dealing with.

I originally put a work order for a floor furnace and has a tech come out from 3N1 Heating. The tech said he was not certified to do the job and left. After trying to contact 3N1 Heating to follow up there was no answer. Later to come find out they went out of business. I put in another work order for the floor furnace and a new air conditioning company called me and asked what the problem was. I explained to them and they said I needed a Plumber not an a/c tech. So I called American Home Shield and the person over the phone changed the work order to Plumber. The agent ASSURED me that I would not be charged for the $75 fee again since the job was never completed the first time. Plumber came out and fixed the leaking water heater.

I called American Home Shield back because I was recharged the $75 service fee. The agent on the phone was very rude and could not understand her. Sounds like the call center is outsourced in the Philippines. I asked for a refund and explained the back story. Apparently she was not understanding me. I asked for a refund, she refused and sent a the plumber again to my property and ASSURED me I was not going to get charged again since she was re opening the work order. Nevertheless I am not being charged $75 AGAIN!!

I called a recently to try to clear this up but all the out for the country agent tried to do was collect payment. CUSTOMER SERVICE totally sucks! They need to bring their service back to the United States. Someone from the US please contact me to resolve this issue. American Home Shield has been a complete headache with their customer services and they are supposed to do the opposite. Someone from the United States Please contact me to clear up this issue.

The repair teams x 2 sent out have been unable to fix, even after replacing the compressor and fan. The second company came today, was here less than 30 minutes, had the unit running, left and the unit panel went down again. When you call the company you're can plan on spending 15 to 25 minutes on the phone, usually with a representative I suspect is in another part of the world. I have a difficult time understanding them, and it's like I'm speaking to a robot. I've asked to speak with the Supervisor more than once only to be told I was not able to at that time. Horrible service, service technicians unable to fix systems, and a nightmare for the family and pets. Think twice before selecting AHS.

I had another home warranty company before and they were terrible. They told me they covered everything but they didn’t cover everything. I had a water heater crack but they didn’t cover water tanks and water heaters. I had a garage door spring that broke when I was with my old company and they didn’t cover garage springs, but American Home Shield told me they did but, in fact, they don’t. So, that was kinda shady. Their salespeople sometimes tell you how rosy everything is and then, when you get down to it, sometimes they’re not as rosy as they make it out to be. That’s one “buyer beware” things. But American Home Shield has been pretty reasonable.

My recent deal with the garbage disposal was really simple, and I was impressed. Although the contractor didn't show up on the first day that they were supposed to because their van broke down. It was a pretty ratty van, but the guy did the job. He showed up right on time the next day, put in a new disposal and left. It took him 10 minutes to fix it and he charged me nothing. So, that was good.

I’ve called them for a couple of different things and it seemed like I was speaking with someone overseas. Sometimes, they seem to have some difficulty understanding me, and they never seem to get my address correct even though I tried to correct them on that. So, there's some translation issues there, but they were able to contact people in my area in order to help me get some service providers. I've been very pleased with the technicians that AHS has sent. The person who installed the ventilation under the house left a piece of insulation on the ground and I thought it had come detached. The contractor that AHS sent checked it and was able to make sure that there were no holes, everything was secure and that the ventilation system leads directly to the vents of the house. He was able to reassure me that everything was fine.

Navigating through the website was pretty straightforward and easy. The contractor told me that he would be out on Monday between 8 and 12, and he came about 9:30. He was very professional and very thorough. He was a nice guy. A breaker had to be reset and he was there for about 20 minutes and he fixed it. It was an excellent experience overall.

But I would recommend American Home Shield. They've done my air conditioning. They've replaced a faucet on the sink, a dryer, and a toilet. When submitting claims, sometimes I have to call American Home Shield back. If I call in and I feel it’s an emergency, they’ll say, “Well, within 48 hours.” When I don’t hear from the company that they send out, I call them back and they usually get on it right away, and I get good results. They told me exactly what they were doing. My air conditioning was very old and it would have costed me a lot to just fix and then add the Freon. So, they helped me choose and install the right air conditioner, which was very good. The person was very knowledgeable. The dryer was fixable and the technician gave me tips on how to make sure that the dryer runs good, how to look for something and how to make it safer. Galloway Appliance, the contractor that American Home Shield sent out for the appliance, was the best company I ever dealt with. However, it was kind of a bad experience with the plumbing company. The plumbing clogged up and the contractor came out. He tried to clear it but he couldn’t. When he was finally able to clear it, a tiny root came out and he took a picture of that. Then, the plumbing clogged back up again a day and a half later. I called and AHS sent him back out, which made me leave work early to meet him there in the two-hour window. As soon as the company got there, they called AHS and said that there was a root. AHS said they didn’t cover that if there was a root and that the plumbing company couldn't do anything. They told the plumbing guys to leave, and the guys did. They could have given me a bill. I didn’t care about going through American Home Shield if they don't cover it but they didn't do that.

I understand why AHS didn't cover it but how they went about it left my family in a bad situation. They left my family without a toilet and everything else to use. It was not a hundred percent their fault but part of it is the way they handled it. I cleared it myself and I didn't find a single root. AHS had nothing but excuses to give me. It was the worst service I ever had in my entire life, and I'll never use them for plumbing again. It’s not even a year that I have been with AHS and probably when my contract's up or when I feel like I'm done paying them, I'll leave them too.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our dishwasher, and we were contacted first by a person from Sears Appliance, and he said he was the one assigned to us. So, I went over everything with him and he said, “We don’t handle that brand.” And so, he turned it down and somebody said that the other outfit, Optimum Appliance, would be contacting me, and they did right away. The gentleman that came out was somebody that had done something for the dishwasher before. He did a great job. The rack that we had for getting dishes in and out of the dishwasher came off the track. I couldn’t get it back on the track. I tried and couldn’t get it fixed. The gentleman got everything fixed, and it turned out to be a loose screw on one of the racks that runs in and out of the dishwasher.

Our dishwasher has been performing perfectly since he’s been out. Every day we use dishes and every day we put them in the dishwasher, and we turn it on, but we gotta have the dirty dishes sink in the dishwasher. So, having it repaired had a big effect. I'd recommend American Home Shield. Working with them was excellent. I called right away, I got connected and put in a claim for the fix, and I was contacted right away by somebody. Having American Home Shield is an excellent way to make sure that appliances are working every day, and you don’t have to go and try to find a repairman or repair stuff left and right. There’s a lot of ease connected with it. And they take care of an issue right away and get right to the job, and the problem gets fixed.

The process of submitting claims has been easy thus far. As far as when we call in, they usually respond right away with a call or email. And I’ve really got no complaints. We had a previous issue with our refrigerator, and they helped us get that resolved. It had been kind of a mess because the seal on the refrigerator wouldn’t set right. And the folks that they recommended for us came out several times until they got it fixed. It took a while to get things resolved, but they stuck with it and got it resolved. And the whole time, everybody was courteous and helpful. The first guy that they sent out was super nice. He was a young kid, and he just wasn’t getting the job done. Our landlord had American Home Shield before us for five years and then, we've been paying on it for almost a little over two years. So, we've had it for about seven years. Both times that I had to submit a claim since we've been paying for it, it was super easy. I called and stated the information. Then, after the initial call, we didn't have to deal with American Home Shield or anyone, other than the person calling to tell us they were coming to work on or replace the appliance. The contractors have all been good and the last one with the washer went over and beyond. The washer would fill up with water, but it would not spin or drain. We worked with it for quite a while, where you could move it just a little bit and we would finally get it to spin but then, it got to where it would not at all and so, AHS sent Sears out.

The contractor came in and he thought he got the old washer fixed and he left. He'd been gone 10 minutes when we realized that the washer was still doing what it was doing before. So, I called him and he turned around and came back. He was here for another hour trying to make sure that we got the problem fixed. He called and talked to AHS and Sears, and made sure that got it completely taken of before he left. He replaced everything on the washer that was replaceable with the exception of one thing that they don't make anymore and so, he thought for sure it was fixed. He came in, he checked it again and they decided that it was just not gonna be fixable, at least, not for less than it would have been to replace the washer.

American Home Shield always followed through with what they said they would do. However, it takes forever for someone to come out. We were without a washer for two weeks before somebody came to look at it and then, another two weeks before he came and found out that we would have to have the washer replaced. Then, it was probably a week before the other washer was able to be delivered. So, it was a little over a month that we were without a washer. It wouldn't have been if he could've have replaced it the first time he was here but they were trying to fix the one we had instead of replacing it from the beginning. Other than that, they did not charge us extra money and they did not give us any trouble with any of those things that we called about. They have fixed other things in our home such as our stove, our fan in the bathroom and our hot water heater. I would recommend American Home Shield.

He couldn't figure out what it was and he said because it wasn’t making a noise, he didn’t know what I was talking about. He couldn't find out what was wrong with it so he did not do anything with the stove. Right now, the stove is working fine.

The microwave was never fixed either. It's old and he told me that he was gonna try to find a part for it. I never heard anything back. The person who came out did not offer any evening hours. They also did not offer any weekend hours which meant that I had to take off from work for the person to come out. I would have preferred a company that did weekend hours or evening hours so I won't have to take off work. Nevertheless, having the warranty is great. It's valuable to have it. You don’t have to pay a large sum of money when something breaks. I would tell others to get American Home Shield. I had HomeServe before Home Shield and when my air conditioning unit broke, HomeServe would not replace it. They offered to fix it and if they couldn't fix it, I was on my own. I heard that it took so long to get through on the phone but they said that I just needed to file my claim with my credit card number for the deductible. Within 24 to 48 hours, the contractor, Ace, got in touch with me. It was on a weekend, so it was that Monday. Both the rekeyer and Ace were great. I've read Ace has horrible reviews online but I had no problem at all.

The technician from Ace said that the gaskets around the refrigerator weren't sealing tight which was why I was getting a lot of leaking and condensation in the refrigerator section. A refrigerator came but it didn’t work so, a GE repairman was sent out. The refrigerator was damaged and not repairable. GE wanted me to go through the warranty company but I said no. It was nice that AHS went on a conference call with GE and me, and GE said that AHS bought from them. I've had no problems so far with the warranty company at all. I needed to have an attic fan repaired and submitting a claim over the phone with AHS was draining. It was not easy because I had to keep calling and wait for a long time. I was stuck at the airport for six hours and four of the six hours, I was on the phone with American Home Shield. Then, when I tried to get a second opinion and tried to get reimbursement, they didn’t receive my invoice and I had to keep tracking. Other than that, the tech they sent out from Wirenut was good and he fixed up the fan. And usually, contractors don’t like to do repairs in the afternoon. They wanna do it in the morning because it will go hot. But he decided he could still do it, so he came and diagnosed it. Then he went to his truck, reviewed a part, and put it back in. Since the repair, the fan has been working.

Unfortunately, this is the only good thing done through AHS. The other contractor I had for a claim on my AC didn’t do a good job. The electrician came in saying he could help with the problem but when he showed up, he just changed one freaking plug and left trash. When I called him back another time, he said that there was nothing he could do and he refused to come back. He said he couldn't reach the line. So I spent $100 just for an adaptor and I’m not gonna use them again. I also have AHS for my rental property and it’s so hard to call for claims with the tenants there. Eventually, we gave up with the repair. The company was not sure if they were gonna have an appointment after 4:00 but the tenant could get home before 4:00. So, they stayed home and took time off, but the techs didn’t show up. I'm quite pissed off about that.

Overall, my experience with AHS depends on the contractor they send out. They call out different contractors for different issues and some are good while some are not. And working with the company takes a lot of energy but if you are persistent enough, you can get the result you want. I have also referred AHS to others and I told them about my determination on how to deal with the company because a lot of times, people just end it there with a bad note.

I'm 52 years old, going on 53. The first time I ever bought a car as an adult at 21 was the first time I had experience with warranties. I found out one thing at a very young age. A warranty is only as good as the bad man you sell it to. So I have a very dim view of warranties. My wife conned me into getting American Home Shield less than six years ago and I kept it for about three months. The whole time, it was a waste of time and money and I cancelled. But she went back and got it on her own a while back.

When we first called in, it was on Tuesday and the woman said the contractor would come out here within 24 to 48 hours. Donna told them I had a very severe heart condition. AC is very important around here. They said they would put in an expedited order and have someone call us within four hours. On Wednesday, I got a text from somebody saying they would be with us within 24 business hours. But the way I read that text, it was gonna be some time Monday before they would come. Also, I only had one text but I'm 52 and I don't do text. Donna said that we should call again so we did. We got a lady on the phone and I asked her upfront to get me a manager because I was very unhappy. I told her that she was just an employee and she was doing as instructed but that she had never dealt with people like me.

After that, I was on a call from a woman in Rockville and I know exactly where that is. That automatically perked my ears because that’s not in our backyard. That's probably a good three hours from us. The lady was very nice but I told her there had been a misunderstanding. We're in Clyde, North Carolina, not Rockville, South Carolina. But she said they've got technicians all out in our area and that they leave out from their house so I said okay. They sent us a guy and I can't complain. They guy got the thing going. He was super nice and friendly too. I couldn't ask for better service. It was a little slow the first round getting somebody out here. But the second company did what they say they would do. They were good people.

We’ve reported a number of items to American Home Shield and Express Appliance Services initially came out. There was water dripping on the refrigerator. They said I had to defrost it and they were right about that. For the the ice maker, they said it needed a filter, but they looked at it very fast. And for burner, they admitted that it wasn’t turning on properly but they didn’t need any part for it. They said they were gonna send their guy but they never did.

Then we had a problem with our washer and dryer. We called American Home Shield on that and I also mentioned that Express never fixed the burner. American Home Shield looked it up, and told me that the claim was closed out. In their description, they said that Express saw it wasn’t turning on well, but they still closed it out. American Home Shield put on the washer and dryer with Express. When I got back to Express to try to schedule, they only had something like two weeks later. They were gonna do all five items much later and I was upset to wait so long. I went back to American Home Shield and told them I didn’t wanna do Express. The supervisor from American Home Shield said they were gonna give me someone else that day on the washer and dryer. I was also told they couldn't do anything about the one that Express already came for. So Richards came and that’s the one I’m really upset with.

Express then came to follow up for the burner and they sent the real technician, Martin. The first time they came, they sent someone else who was not really the technician. Martin looked back at the icebox which still wasn’t working properly. He gave more suggestions. He looked at the burner and we went over it again and again. He said it didn’t need any new parts and it turned on. We tested it again and again and it worked.

I wish I would’ve had the washer and dryer with Express instead of Richards because they have been horrible. We’re a family of six without a washing machine and a dryer. Richards came the first day, but they said there was something wrong with the dryer and the washer. They had to order parts. They took forever and ever, and they never got back to us. We had to keep chasing after them and they never gave a clear answer.

Finally, I called American Home Shield and complained about it. A manager from American Home was supposed to call me back within 48 hours, but he never did. Richards finally came back three weeks after they initially came. They said they still couldn’t fix it and they were gonna write a report. The manager from American Home Shield said they're waiting for the report so they can't tell me anything. I haven’t heard from Richards since then, and it’s been a week and a half or so since they were here the second time. We have to go pay a lot of money for the laundromat. My wife is like, “Why don’t we just buy new machines? What are we paying American Home for? It’s horrible. We can’t get our washer and dryer fixed and it takes forever.”

But American Home is excellent for us. If a toilet leaks, they come right away for that. During the second year of our policy five years ago, the air conditioner was broken and they got it right away. We got a new air conditioner. That in itself was a couple of thousand dollars. But we pay a very high premium and for the washer and dryer, it’s a disaster.

It’s hard to get anyone from American Home Shield on the phone. A lot of times you have to wait a long time to even get someone. Once you get someone, they have a foreign accent. It’s very hard to understand them. You also can’t get to a manager. They have a new thing they’ve made now where instead of a manager, they give you a supervisor who doesn’t have any more authority. That supervisor can’t do anything that they have to get the manager, but the manager will have to call you back. So I did the online chat and the guy was very nice. He said they were gonna document all those, then the manager would be able to see it. He documented a long discussion, but I haven’t heard from the manager about it.

Some contractors are very good but some are not. Once you’re stuck with a bad contractor, once they order parts, you cannot get away from them and they can victimize you. The contractors have to be more closely screened and supervised. American Home Shield has to find better contractors. Get them to come quickly and get them to finish the job quickly ‘cause what these contractors do is they come but they don’t really do anything. They grab the job, then they say they have to come back subsequently. Someone in the air conditioning business also told me that he never does any work for American Home Shield 'cause American Home Shield waits 30 days to pay them. So, we might be getting weaker contractors and they are not in a rush to finish it because they’re not getting paid anyway for 30 days. Some things have been horrible but overall, we’re satisfied with American Home Shield.

I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years and I’ve had quite a few claims with them. I had issues with my air condition. I had a recurrent problem, and they found out whoever put in something had installed it wrong. And finally someone figured it out after a couple of years. My recent experience was good. They fixed the air condition issue. They put some Freon in it. It was leaking. And I also had another claim where they were trying to fix my dryer electrical problem which turned out it was the circuit breaker flicked. You don’t know that when a dryer goes out.

I’ve called to submit my claim and American Home Shield’s representatives were good. They took my information down and got me connected quickly to a service contractor. And I had really good interactions with the contractor. With some of the contractors, they didn’t fix things right. I had some issues with some of the repairs that were being done. But overall, my experiences with the contractors have been good.

The hot water heater went out. The tank just did not work. I filed the claim and AHS has fairly simple steps. The plumbing contractor is great but there was an upcharge on the replumbing that wasn't covered so that was a bit frustrating. I called because I didn't understand why I was being charged extra by the plumber and it came to the "It is what is" situation. They explained it, but I still don't understand. When you repair something, it has to be up to code. But I'm assuming that they have good lawyers who write these things that they're not gonna cover a certain portion. It is in the contract so there's not much to say about it. When you buy something, you oughta read it all.

The guy who fixed the stove was fine. The first time he came out, he spent a minute looking at it and said, "I gotta order parts. I'll call you when I get them." He walked out with no explanation or anything. When he came back to repair it, he had a trainee with him which is fine. Everybody gotta learn fast. But his attitude towards his trainee wasn't that good, so I just left him alone with it. My wife said, "He's just a jerk. He can't help it." But they fixed the issue. So far, the quality of the repairs has been very good. The only dissatisfaction I had was that one portion that wasn't covered. I understand their deductibles and all that. I still got the policy, so I'll keep it.
