I had service for two years over which time I spent about $1200. Needed them to do a Washer repair. $125 dollar service fee for $20 dollars worth of parts that I ended up installing myself because they couldn't get out to me for a week after the parts arrived. Second time I needed them was for a water softener that I was told when I signed up would be covered but apparently now it isn't. If you're the least bit handy don't waste your money with these people. Look up your problem on Youtube and order your parts on line.
I hate to hear the warranty has been not beneficial to you. I just sent you an email in a effort to hear more about your experience as well as assist with unresolved issues.

We have had American Home Shield for the past 5 years and have only used them twice. So I have paid in over $4,000 and got a motor for my AC replaced and a new latch for our dishwasher. This morning I had a leak in our water heater and had to make the call. I paid the $75 service fee and had an individual come out this afternoon to take a look. The water heater needed to be replaced because the tank ruptured. Now comes the fun part.
After the paperwork was filed by the plumber American Home Warranty called me. Because the tank was installed in 2006 it doesn't meet the current code. This forced me to pay a $900 bill. Basically, they will purchase a new heater but won't cover the required updates to install the purchased heater. Everyone should be aware of this if you own an older home. The money you pay them annually might not cover your expenses.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Bencraft Mechanical came out pretty quick when I made a claim for the air conditioner. I filed it on a Monday and they were out on Tuesday. They explained everything that they were doing, what it would take and what had to be done. They had to come back ‘cause they had to order a part, so they did the initial diagnostics and identified the part that needed to be replaced. My only problem was with American Home Shield and the delay in ordering the part, which has traditionally always been their problem. Still, now the AC is working as it should.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

When my AC quit completely, I called American Home Shield to put in a claim and I had good results on the process. Everybody was courteous and understood that I needed it done right away because the temperature was going over 100. But they sent the wrong unit to be installed so they had to send it back. But outside of that little bit of a delay, everything was perfect. Also, every time there was a delay, the contractor called me immediately and told me what the problem was and how long it would be. They were also very nice and courteous.
Dorcas,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you regarding your AC request. We certainly apologize for the delays during the process. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

My AC wasn't working. Submitting a claim for its repair online to American Home Shield was super easy. A few days later, Strickland’s Heating and Air contacted me. Over the last five years, they’ve been the very best contractor for my heating and cooling. Their tech was awesome. He rebuilt the motor and it needed a new switch. Everything has been good since then.

We bought our home back at the end of November but didn't physically live in it until just recently. We had an issue with the gas water heater and made a claim for it with AHS. It turned out, the gas was maybe turned off as well as the pilot light so we didn’t know that it wasn’t functioning. I made my service request with AHS online. The site seems to be okay. I am pretty computer-literate so it’s not difficult learning where to look for things, how to point to them and access them.
A gentleman from BB Lewis Plumbing came out and made sure that the pilot light was lit. He told us to let him know if the water didn't get heated. Sure enough, it wasn’t heating properly so he came back a second time to make sure that it was functioning properly. This was the second time we did a claim. The first time was with the air conditioning unit. An electrical connection outside had gotten triggered that we didn’t have any knowledge about. A guy solved that and the unit started working properly.
After my recent claim was done, I can now take a nice shower. My dishwasher works properly. I can take grease off my pots and pans. That's is a big deal. When you don’t have hot water or haven't had it for a while, you just think, "How did we ever exist?" Now I can steam my water kettle and heat up water to do what I need to do. Overall, it was wise of the previous seller to initiate this opportunity to have AHS. I have since heard from a number of other people that has the warranty how thankful they were. We’re just learning how to make the best use of ours when we need to.
Kay,

Every time the switch on for my swamp cooler, the lights would flicker and the air conditioner would sound like it was gonna fly off my roof. Those times, I had to turn it off for a little while and try again. When I do that, it would work. Still, I wanted somebody to take a look at it so I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. The people whom they sent over said that I might need an electrician. So, I called a representative to ask whether if their HVAC people came out and they determined that I need an electrician, would I pay the $75 fee all over again for an electrician to go out. AHS's reps said no and that they would just transfer the claim to an electrician.
My concern was that their reps took a while to verify that question when it should be a common question that's asked. I'm sure I wasn't the first person to ask that question and they had to put me on hold for about five minutes to find out my answer. Nevertheless, their contractors were quick and professional. They got the job done and since the repair, things have been working.

We had an issue with the water heater. I called AHS and they assigned a plumber to it. He called the next day and made an appointment. Then he was over in 24 hours, which was good because we didn’t have any hot water. He came in and he fixed the water heater. He replaced the elements in the thermostat, inspected it really well, got it all working, and left. Before, we had a problem with the electrical panel and our claim with AHS also went really well. So, I've had an outstanding experience with AHS. I’ve been with them for a long time but I hadn’t used them in a long time. And it was really nice to know that when those two big items popped up, I had coverage. I also recommended AHS to my son who has a home now in Orlando and he just got a contract with them.
We strive to provide you with a great team of contractors and an even better customer service experience. We hope you continue to enjoy your AHS warranty!

American Home Shield's contractor worked on our AC and he was a very nice man. But my husband mentioned to him that we didn't know if the thermostat was working correctly and he didn't do anything about that. Now, the air is working. It's nice and cold. But the thermostat doesn't stay where we set it. It goes back to a high number then the air doesn't go on. If it says the temperature is set on 85, we keep bringing it down. My husband and I do that over and over but the temperature goes back to 85.

It seems like there’s a lot of communication issues between the contractor and American Home Shield on what’s covered and what’s not covered. We had a faucet that needed repairing but they couldn’t get the part because they’re not manufactured anymore. Someone is also saying it’s not covered even though you can look up the contract and it says faucets are covered. American Home Shield is not giving me straight answers on why it’s not covered and no one can seem to get to the bottom of it. We put in the work order a week ago so our faucet has been down since then and there's still no solution. It just doesn’t seem like there’s a real urgency to fix our faucet. The plumber was fine though. We’ve had Whitney Plumbing come out before and they’ve been great.
The process for submitting a claim is pretty easy but there are some issues that could still be improved on. The topics are very generic. We had pipes leak so we selected that but it’s not the copper pipe. It was our braided pipe connecting to our faucet. But there wasn't an extra input comments box so the plumber can be aware of what he’s getting into. He doesn’t know if he’s in a basement or just under a sink. There are different parts and pieces, and I wish I could give them more information. It’s really vague which kinda sucks.
I hate to that we have not been clear with coverage Meagan. I can understand how that can be frustrating. I just sent you an email in as effort to hear more/help with unresolved warranty issues.

AHS did a good job and I’m happy with them. I submitted my service request online and it was simple. But it would be nice if you could put in notes so you could describe the problem a little bit. I had another claim for a leaky toilet, but there were two issues with the same toilet. But you could only click one. So, then the company that came out said, “Oh, I don’t know if I can fix that other thing because it was not on my work order.” Nonetheless, the contractor was great. He fixed the problem and was fast and seemed very knowledgeable.

I had a plumbing issue and at first, I thought it was my dishwasher because it’s 15 years old. It was on Memorial Day and my sink was stopped up. Then, I noticed that there was water standing in the bottom of the dishwasher. When I started trying to plunge the sink and drain the dishwasher, it had water flowing out the bottom of it and it went all over my kitchen. So, I called it in as a dishwasher issue. American Home Shield sent somebody out and the contractor said that it was the sink. It had a clog and if the sink doesn't drain, the dishwasher won't drain.
AHS sent somebody else out with a Roto-Rooter. He snaked it quickly and everything works now. I asked what it was and he said that he didn’t really get anything out. It was probably just a buildup, which made sense because I've been here almost 27 years and we've never had anything snaked around here. It was very simple. The second guy was here 10 minutes and everything was fixed. The company that AHS gave me was Lone Star Water and they couldn’t get here until Thursday so, I called back. Lone Star even said that I might wanna call AHS and see if they can get somebody out sooner. I held so long on the phone with American Home Shield, then it disconnected. I gave a number but they never called me back. So, I called Lone Star and told them that I couldn't even get a hold of American Home Shield. So, I'm gonna keep their appointment.
AHS is very difficult to get a hold of, and you get passed around. It didn't use to be that way because we've had American Home Shield almost 27 years. Also, it seems like their plumbing is always backed up. They would say that they can get here three or four days away and then, they would give you a window of 8:00 in the morning till 5:30 at night. The last problem I had, it was my double-oven, and the contractor was a jerk. I told him that I was trying to work and to just give me a time. He gave me 8 o'clock to 3 o'clock. The plumber was just ugly. So, when the people with his company finally came out, they said a lot of people had trouble with him and he has had a lot of complaints.
AHS’ customer service is lacking but once the contractor finally gets here, it seems like everything's okay. AHS is trying to make everything automated and don't have time to talk to you. They would rather you file it online and not even call them. They make sure to tell you that you have that option. While you're holding for 10 hours, they say that several times.
The customer service is not good anymore but for us who has an older home, it has worked well because things break and they've always managed. My double-oven broke a few months ago and AHS sent somebody out. The man said that AHS was just gonna get me a new oven. I thought, "American Home Shield is just not gonna give me a new oven." So, I waited a week. AHS called me and said that they were gonna send him back out and he's gonna try to get the oven door opened to get the model number. So, he came back out and got the model number. AHS tried to order the circuit panel but it was discontinued. AHS said that they were gonna do a nationwide search for this part. So, we waited another week but the part was not available. So then, they called me up and I was at work, so it was the voicemail. They had some options for me and my oven.
AHS was either going to give me $365 towards a new oven or they were going to come out, send their appliance guy back out, and they were gonna remove the circuit panel, ship it off and have it rebuilt which would take five to seven weeks. I've already been without an oven for a month so, I called them back and I said that I am almost a 27-year customer of American Home Shield. So, with that being said, I want to tell them what my options are for my double-oven and that I wanted them to tell me which one was acceptable because their options were unacceptable.
The lady quickly said that they were gonna send me an email and would let me pick out a double-oven. That sounded acceptable to me but my point was, I had to go piecemeal so I waited for them. When that was all said and done, I was out without my double-oven for two months. Money-wise, the warranty pays off for us because we have an older home. The reason we have the insurance is to save us money and not coming out-of-pocket, which is the good part. However, their customer service at their facility and the timeliness are not good. It gets very frustrating.

The air conditioner unit was not functioning and I filed a claim to American Home Shield online. It was pretty easy to navigate through and they got Cote's Mechanical out within 24 hours. The contractor did a fine job. They quickly assessed the problem and they had to order a part. Unfortunately, it was over the weekend and then there was a holiday following the weekend, so they can’t do anything until Tuesday. Finally, it was Thursday of the week when the part came in. So, it took almost a week to get it repaired and back up and running, but it was just the timing. Also, they reached out to me and they were quick to respond when I had a question. I was informed every step of the way.

My AC stopped working and I called American Home Shield Sunday morning. AHS' claims process was very easy. I made a call and they got back with me. But the biggest issue that I had was the timing being that it was in the high 90s here. Being that it's the summertime, it was extremely hot. The contractor, Residential Services, wasn't able to come out until Thursday. When the technician came, he was really good. The capacitor had to be changed and the guy had the part in the truck. He put a new one in there and was able to fix the AC within 20 to 30 minutes. Other than the timing issue, my experience was good.

He was very nice and friendly. He told me what he was doing and what was the problem. They had to order a part and came back out like two days later. They fixed the issue and explained again what was going on. They finished the job in a timely manner and had good customer service. We've been with AHS 17 of the 18 years we've owned the home. This is the first home we've owned and we were prior military, so we've never had to deal with other companies. The first time we ever had to deal with American Home Shield sealed the deal for us and we've been with them 17 of the 18 years we've owned the home. Our water heater was leaking, and I went on the website of AHS and put in a work order request. Navigating through the website was very easy and I always have a very good experience with them. The rep said we would be contacted within the next 24-48 business hours and the contractor called me that morning about 20 minutes before he got here. It was very timely and he knew exactly what the issue was. They had to replace the water heater and it has been perfect. AHS has always been excellent and it was a great experience.

So far, the contractors that I have come in contact with have been good as far as the work that they’ve done. Filing a claim is also fairly easy online. You put in what the issue is, pay your upfront cost, and within 24 hours, the place would contact you about setting up a scheduled time to come and fix it. The only thing is if the homeowner pays their upfront cost and the contractor doesn’t contact them, there could be a better way to get your money back because you pay for a service that they didn’t do.

I prefer to submit my claims online with AHS as it’s hard to get a person on the phone and you have to wait forever. I’ve waited up to 45 minutes to an hour or so and it was bad. But submitting a request online has been the best. As for the contractors that the send out, Sears was the worst while everybody else has been pretty good.
Recently, I submitted a claim for our AC that wasn't cooling and submitting it online was was one of the easiest experiences I had. They sent out Integrity Air and they were absolutely wonderful, too. We live in a very rural area, so I’ve found in the past that it’s very hard to find contractors that AHS has available for this area. It makes it harder for those rural communities but it’s improving in the last three years, mainly because I recommend them all the time to people. So, I am an advocate for them. I’ve even Facebooked and told people to make sure they get a home warranty because it’s so important and can save them a lot of money. We had an AC unit that was totally replaced because it didn't work and we paid $75 for that. It was amazing. So, the warranty paid for itself and then some.

I’ve been with American Home Shield ever since I bought my house back in 2003 and for the most part, I’m satisfied with them but my biggest complaint about them is the customer service. The last time I called, I got somebody that was from here but these other people, I don’t know where they’re from, and you can hardly understand them. It’s terrible that when you call, you have to keep saying, “Excuse me. What did you say? What did you say?” If you ask to speak to a manager, you can never talk to a manager.
The first time I had the contractor come out for the AC, the air wasn’t coming on. You could hear it click on but it wasn’t blowing. So, he checked it out but he couldn’t find anything so he put in a new thermostat. He had to come back out on Monday because it wasn’t working at all. He told me it was a relay switch and that they had to order it. So, I’m waiting for that now. It’s still a work in progress. He put one on there but it makes my air run on a continuous basis. You can’t turn it off. The only thing that turns it off is going out to the box. I turned it off because I can’t afford that light bill that’s getting ready to come to me. I’m okay with American Home Shield because if I wasn’t, I would have been gone.

I submitted a claim through the online service request when I was having electrical issues with my pool pump. American Home Shield’s website was really easy to navigate. On the website, they give you a notice that you should expect a phone call to schedule within 24 hours. I submitted the service request in the evening and by 8:00 the next morning, the contractor was calling me to schedule. I’m usually having to hunt down who American Home Shield assigned my pool to for three or four days because they don’t call me. This was the first time I had a contractor on the pool who called me promptly to schedule. The tech called on Friday and I told him that it was a holiday weekend and we could just schedule it on Tuesday. But he asked if I would have a problem if he made it on Monday. I told him it was a holiday but he said his wife was out of town so he was going to work. That was good for me because I wouldn't have to take time off work.
He had me send him a picture of my pool serial numbers and model numbers of the equipment, so that he could have spare parts on hand before he got there. And then he called me because he had time on Sunday, and asked if he could stop by and see if he could fix it real quick instead of waiting. So, he showed up earlier than he thought he would on a holiday weekend with spare parts already in his truck for my system. That is physically unheard of in my experience with the pool contractors that American Home Shield usually sends over. We haven’t had any more issues since the service. I was so pleasantly surprised. I absolutely love this contractor, and I’ve recommended American Home Shield to my neighbor.

I thought I was having a problem with the diverter inside the shower and the claim was handled excellently. I guess the people that I bought the house from had the diverter set for low hot water so I couldn’t get really hot water out of it for my kids. So when the contractor from Hers and His Plumbing came down and looked at it, he had to change the handle. He adjusted it and it now gives me the pure hot water that I wanted. It was excellent service.
I also had a claim at my home in Tivoli Drive. We had had a new countertop put on but after about 11 months, two of the switches weren’t working. So I called and American Home Shield sent General Electric down because it was a General Electric product. When the technician came on the 4th, he didn’t have the right parts for it so he had to order the parts and come back on the 11th. But they had sent the wrong parts. Then he came back on the 17th and fixed this. It was probably just a mix-up in part numbers and he did fix it. I'm very happy with Home Shield. As far as the two calls that I've made, things are all working perfectly.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

The air conditioning had stopped on Memorial Day and I checked to see if things got popped outside, and it wasn’t there. We called American Home Shield on Monday and originally got somebody from Memphis, Tennessee, who said they’d be back the middle of next week. It seemed strange to me that it was Memphis, Tennessee calling Cookeville, which is over 300 miles away. So, I called AHS back, they got me the name of somebody outta Monterey and they did a fantastic job. We had the air conditioning system put in about four years ago, and this was the first time we've had any problem. But the tech came in, checked the pump and a lot of other things, cleaned everything out and it has worked perfect since. Every time, we’ve had somebody that has done a real good job. They’ve always been here promptly and done their work correctly.

My washer break down 6 weeks ago. AHS has sent four technicians to our house and each one has said that the unit needs to be replaced. AHS has not done anything on this while we have no washer to do laundry. I have sent a number of emails and placed a number of calls with AHS Customer Service, to find out that Customer Service is a third-party company in a foreign country with no access to my emails and my claim documentation. I have repeatedly asked to speak to a manager or a Claims Manager and usually no one is available and no one has contacted me from AHS. Each time I call I'm on hold for close to an hour and the AHS representatives do not have access to all of documentation regarding my case. I have extended coverage for my house and this is in violation of AHS's agreement. I'm very frustrated with AHS and this is looking like a scam that may have to take legal action for. Masoud **

This company is fine if you have small problems like your ice maker or garbage disposal. But try them out with something major. I challenge you right now to call and ask for a Manager. You will be put on hold and no one will ever answer. This happens repeatedly. I have gotten No resolution. My heater went out. And to get it replaced I have to pay $1,000 to get modifications done. I checked with the vendor they sent and the vendor told me that because of the system they chose I would have to pay $1,000. If they bought something comparable then I wouldn’t have to pay for modifications. If I wanted to cash out I would only get $700.
I called 7 times and each time I was lied to and promised they would get something comparable but to date I have no heater. Consumer Affairs can you help me? I’m still on hold right now. And the person that answers will be so nice but they are trained to treat their customers this way. It’s the only thing that explains this happening to me repeatedly.
Again call them right now and test my theory if you don’t believe me. Ask for a Manager because you are not happy. And I called the service number for status and say yes that the technician has already been to the house. And one time that I did get through the agent seemed determined to help me. She gave me a number to call and guess what. It was a wrong number. So deal with these people only for very small stuff. For major items they are going to try to swindle you to their benefit alone. Not at all caring about the customer. I also told them that it was the vendor that said I wouldn’t need to pay for modifications if they chose something more comparable. And she called the vendor to verify this and that is when I was given the wrong number to call. I’m disappointed greatly in this company. The number I called 800-827-4636.

They approved replacing both items and initially sent repair people to my home. But nothing is getting done -- it has now been 2-3 weeks. I have called dozens of times, been on hold forever, talked to numerous people, gotten the runaround, and nothing is getting done. In fact, on my account page, it shows that both the service request for the microwave and the fan have been closed. As far as I am concerned, these cases are totally wide open. I contacted the company on April 9, 2019 about a broken HVAC. On the 12th, they sent a provider. The diagnosis was simple - either replace the coils or Air Handler. They went back and forth with the provider about how they would replace the Air Handler with a cheaper, less inefficient one that DID NOT match the one needing replacement. This took 3 weeks of continuous calls. He insisted that the replacement must match the efficiency level of the existing unit or to replace the coils. Even though they knew that the coils would take 3 weeks to arrive, they chose to replace the coils rather than install an Air Handler that the provider had in stock.
After they arrived, it took a week of calls from me to continuously assert that I would accept the. It is now June 3, 2019 and the AC was installed today. The provider explained what they did. I have called the company and they will not escalate this up the chain to address the matter. I used to have 2-1- Home Buyers Warranty and never experienced this kind of poor service.

I have literally been going around in circles and contractor relations has to be the ** department ever. Only can be contacted through email. They don't have a number they can call. They take over a week to respond to an email and then screw you over. I've had their contractor send them an estimate for the costs, the authorization department review and told me what the non covered costs are. Great, but now contractor relations needs to get involved and has not done anything. I haven't had hot water for a month all because they just want to sit around and not do anything. If I could, I would give negative 10 stars for how I have been treated and the way this simple warranty has taken a turn for the worse.

Personally, I think 1 star is too many but 0 wasn't an option. I submitted a claim for AC repair on 26 May 19. 28 May, the contractor came out and diagnosed the problem. 28 May I called and was told that the request had been approved and should be getting a call from my contractor. My contractor told me he never got the approval. On 29 May, I made several calls and was again told that the request had been approved. Again, my contractor said that he never received the approval.
On 30 May after several calls, the story changed. I was told that the approval/authorization department had not approved my request and the lines were busy but would send a note to the approval dept. 31 May, after several calls, I was told that the lines were still busy to the approval dept and I would receive a call back when the request was approved. I never received my call back, so on 3 Jun 2019, I called and was told that the lines are still busy to the approval dept. I asked to speak to a supervisor was told that I would get a call back from the supervisor. After 8 days (and still counting), numerous phone calls, countless hours on hold, lies about the status of my claim, I would not recommend American Home Shield for your home warranty source.

Call American Home Shield, paid my hundred dollars and got rejected because I took the toilet up and everything was rusted. Paying my money all these years for a warranty service that doesn't work. The year before I had the same problem in the house with another toilet. I explain to the serviceman what happen. He got authorization and replaced the flange. When talking to American Home Shield when they turn me down they told me that I didn't read the fine print in detail so this time they just did not want to cover the cost of 661.00. Updated on 06/17/2019: On June 3, 2019 I forwarded a complaint to Consumer Affairs on excessive wait times at American Home Shield Warranty Company for service delays which was sent to AHS 6/4/2019 and responded to almost immediately saying they were sorry to hear that I had experience trouble with their system. AHS said that they would like to speak with me concerning this problem.
For almost a week I have being trying to find this AHS person and cannot. I finally got through to AHS customer Service today at 10-30am after waiting on hold for 15 minutes. I played phone-tag again for another 15 minutes until reaching someone who could not help me. I was informed that they do not by company policy reimburse anyone for services used outside their scope of operation. Surprisingly, kitchen sink stoppage does not warrant emergency service. How a home warranty company can make such a ludicrous determination is beyond me and unthinkable.
Our kitchen was entirely put out of service not only from a utilization part but for health reasons. We would have spend four days awaiting their repair service and eating out as we would have had no place to clean the dishes or run the dishwasher. My wife and I are both of advanced age at 80 and 89 respectively and having no decent restaurants in our vicinity would have posed a problem.
Upon hearing of this decision I asked to speak with a supervisor and the representative went to get one, only to return in 10 minutes to say that one was not available and that one would call me shortly. I am not holding my breath since no one has contacted my in two weeks. My future intentions as regards AHS and service companies that have such restrictive policies is to avoid them and alert everyone through Social Media that they should use extreme caution when doing business with companies such as this that in a few short years have dropped service from their vocabulary and inserted greed!
Updated on 06/08/2019: Since I was understandably irate, I informed Consumer Affairs in Florida who then contacted AHS for an answer. I also called and emailed AHS to elicit some information as to why these unreasonable repair delays seem to be a standard practice. Previously, we had issues with a poor response from AHS in March 2017. I mention this because even then they did not respond with either emails, telephone or letter all of which I had dispatched to their offices. In this latest incident, the firm did respond to Consumer Affairs as willing to discuss problem with me but provided no information as to how one is to find a living person on the other end of their telephone/email source. I am once again faced with calling endlessly to find that I cannot reach anyone who can make a decision on this matter.
Original Review: On 5/7/2019 our kitchen sink backed up and both sinks filled with water/debris. I called AHS immediately as it was Friday evening and we were having guests for dinner and could not cancel our get together at this last moment, and was told that AHS would notify a company to repair our sinks. I called the company which was 40 miles away and they said that Tuesday would be the first time that they could come out. I called AHS and they confirmed that owing to the time of the week that would be the contracted time. I immediately hired another contractor who repaired the sinks early the next day.
Now, my indictment is not only with AHS or the other Home Warranty companies but in this day and age wouldn't you think that repair times to customers could be shortened somewhat? Incidentally, this is the second time AHS has "failed us," and caused us to consider cancelling our contract but lo and behold, all service companies have the same response times so something should be done in the consumer's interest to shorten these times through a state-wide agreement. I await your reply. Thank you. Roger **

Our unit froze because we had our AC temp down too low, so AHS sent a technician and they did the refrigerant to solve the issue. It's really easy to file a claim with AHS on their website. Most of the contractors of AHS were super nice and they did a good job, but they asked to use my bathroom. And I always thought that was kind of a no-no, like you're in someone's house doing work, you shouldn't be using their bathroom.
I'm having a plumber come out today to look at my toilets and they're acting kind of funny. I called because my shower is draining really slow right now. So, I was like, "Okay. These plumbers are already coming out here, but I don't know what they're gonna do. If they're gonna say, 'We can't service your shower either because it wasn't on the request.'" And so, I called the number on the American Home Shield site, and there wasn't really an option to speak with someone directly, where I could ask, "Hey, these two plumbers are coming out here for two of my toilets, which is what I filed their service request for. But if they have to do something with the drain in my shower, will you also cover that?"
There were four options to choose when you call the actual American Home Shield number, and the one was about payment, one was about current service, and I can't remember the other two, but none of the choices was, "If you would like to speak to a live rep, please press 5." They have a chat feature on there which I didn't use. I just ended up hanging up. But being able to talk to someone directly would be good.

I usually go online and log into the website of AHS when I have a claim. For the most part, their website is pretty basic and it’s not too difficult to get through. It's also easy to use. After submitting the claim, they usually send a contractor out within 24 to 48 hours and they are always on time. Recently, I submitted a claim for my heater and they sent out Airtronics who is one of their better AC contractors. I personally investigated them and said that this is the company I want when I have an AC or heating problem. In fact, for my recent claim on my heater, everything was fine after they repaired it. There was an initial wiring issue that was missed, but they came out and fixed that. All in all, AHS has been easy to work with and I haven’t had very many difficulties with anything. I’d also tell others that I use them and I would recommend them.

Recently, I called AHS to file a claim for our refrigerator which was leaking. When it got really cold, it clogged up a drain. The contractor cleaned it out and it worked fine. Also, he has worked on several of my appliances and he has gotten everything working perfectly. I was very pleased with him. One thing though is that I have to pay $100 to call somebody out and I think that's too much. I get it though because I can't afford to have a major catastrophe in my house which makes AHS' service call fee very affordable. I started Googling All Brands, and they had a lot of really bad reviews, so I was pretty nervous. But I was very pleasantly surprised. I made claims with American Home Shield for my air conditioner and water heater. I did it online and it was simple. The contractors sent by American Home Shield were both great. Things were done accordingly, but they made sure that I knew what was going on. And they answered a lot of questions. I'm not a handy type person, so I had a few questions on how the process and things were gonna go. The only thing is after my water heater was already completed and done, sometimes I would get the text notifications after. The contractor already came and left, and then I'm getting a text from American Home Shield telling me that he's on his way. And even after I got my new water heater installed, two days later, I got another text saying that the water guy was on his way. Maybe that needs to be looked into.
Also, when I made my claim for the water heater, it was a Friday. And so, the timeframe for the contractor to reach back out is within 24 hours. I went ahead and reached out myself to them because I knew likely they were gonna be closed for the weekend, and I wanted to go ahead and get in contact with somebody so that I could be on the books, instead of waiting for them to call me back. As far as what they cover for the air conditioner coolant, the process with that can be better. They only pay $10 per pound. And I had to get two pounds of coolant. If it's found that there needs to be coolant, the contractor told me that AHS' process is within 60 days. If it's still an issue after 60 days, that's when they come out and check for a leak. Why wouldn't they check for a leak initially while they're there? What's the purpose of waiting up until 60 days for them to come back out and check for the leak. That does not make sense to me.

The air conditioning wasn't blowing cold air anymore and one of my renters said it was probably the capacitor, but he didn't really know. So just in case, because it can be anything, I put the order in to American Home Shield. The service tech called me ahead of time and made sure that somebody was gonna be there. He came, checked it out and it turned out to be the capacitor and got it replaced. It's a little better now but it's still not quite getting up to where it was before. So, I'm wondering if it's also low on Freon but as far as getting it working at least, it's going and it’s better than broken.
From a historical perspective, living at the house for 10 years, I know that they could be colder but I also have another room now that I've built out in the garage. It may be that. Maybe I have to upgrade the HVAC system to push out more air but as far as fixing the actual problem, they got it done quickly. I'm satisfied because my renters didn't leave and if they're happy, I'm happy. I recommend AHS to everybody.

I've had great interactions with all the contractors except for one. That was about three years ago. We had two faucets go bad and after the guy came out and diagnosed it, it took him almost three weeks to come back and make the repair. Then last year, one of my air conditioning units went out and we suffered in the heat for about three weeks. That was horrible service. It wasn't American Home Shield's issue. It was the service tech company. But American Home Shield needs to be a little bit more assertive with some of the technicians there. In cases like what I had with the air conditioner or the faucet, they need to stay on top of the technician and make sure they do the repair in a timely manner.
In each case, I also called the company and they always said that the service has been improved and that the technicians should have been more timely with the repair. But it didn't do me any good when I didn't have water in the kitchen or when I didn't have air in the house. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield highly. It's very easy to submit a claim. I go online into the website, call up my account and indicate what kind of service I need then I'm done. It's easier than going through the phone. When the AC unit malfunctioned, a technician came out and made a repair on it. It took him a while for him to come back out. But that's the nature of the game with air conditioning.

American Home Shield had Advanced Service Company fix two of my air conditioning units. One of them needed Freon, and the other one needed a part. I called it in and AHS said that someone was gonna call within 24 hours. I had to call back because the first time I called they did not put down both units. They only put down one. I had to make sure that they had both units on there.
The contractor was okay. He explained to me what they were gonna do and had me sign some form as far as payment. If I didn't sign the form, then they couldn't do whatever was needed to be done. It was as if I had to accept whatever the charge was for replacing whatever. I didn't know what it was until they actually finished, but I had to sign that form upfront, and I didn't like that.
My unit downstairs leaks a lot, so we have like a little bucket underneath and I don't know where that's coming from. But it's just a little water coming from the AC pipe that comes from the house. I called for a follow-up, but no one ever called me back. So, I was like "Forget it," because I wasn't gonna pay anything else. But American Home Shield does what they're supposed to do, so I don't fault them. The miscommunication was the only issue that I have with them. So I would still recommend it. The last time I called them apart from this claim was three years ago and it has been good.

As soon as I filed a claim online, someone from American Home Shield replied back in about 10 or 15 minutes. And then I had a call from the AC company an hour after I filed the claim to set up the day and the time that they would perform the service. The guy from the AC company was very professional, and he explained everything that was happening with the AC. Everything is very good now.

Our basement plumbing was gurgling and bubbling water. The first time, the toilet overflowed. The guy thought it was a clog in the pipe. The other time, it was going to overflow, but it didn't. Then, whenever we run the shower, it would gurgle through. The guy found that there was a grinder in there that wasn't put back together correctly.
There are no issues when submitting a claim 'cause I do it online. Most of the contractors have been pretty good. The first time with our refrigerator, I really wasn't impressed with him. But the second time, he did really well. I thought they took a little too long for the repair itself and getting the part but that's just probably me 'cause I expected it to be done as soon as possible. American Home Shield has saved us many times and I've passed on to many people to get a home warranty from American Home Shield. I've travelled all over the country for my work and I've talked to other people before who either have homes that they're not in continuously or rental homes, and I told them to get something like this. One person actually did.

My AC wasn’t cooling so I called in to get a technician to come check it out. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was fairly simple. I went on the website and I clicked the link to submit a claim and typed it in. It gave me options of when I wanted somebody to come over. I spoke to a sales representative a long time ago, and she gladly told me the benefits of me having. AHS. I have never had an issue when I’m talking with anybody and with what I need to do if I needed something done. The contractor sent by AHS was perfect and he was wonderful. We talked about an hour just over anything about refrigeration such as how my AC works. He was very thorough.

Right now I'm not happy. I've dealing with my dryer since March and it's not fixed, and it's messing my days up. The dryer makes so much noise, and I have a two-story house and you can hear the dryer when you turn it on. Sears has been out seven times, and that's seven times out of my schedule that I had to make arrangements for them to come, and they still haven't fixed my dryer. They're wasting my time and American Home Shield's money. So far, they've already paid for a dryer and I could've gotten a new one. Everybody at AHS has been kind. I just want the dryer fixed as I can't go to the next thing until it gets fixed. I need my plumbing because something is wrong with my toilet, but I haven't gotten my dryer fixed yet.

I called a claim in for an air conditioner service with American Home Shield and everything went well with the contractor. They came out the first time, did their assessments, wrote up a ticket to get the air conditioner replaced, got that approved from American Home Shield and then came back and installed a new unit. From the initial visit util the time they came back, it was a week. Luckily, I called the claim in early enough that it wasn’t 90 degrees outside yet and in terms of performance, the air conditioner is now very good.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long time. I called on the phone to submit a claim and I listened to the recording. I said what I wanted and then, they recorded and said that somebody would be getting back to me. I got an email telling me that the contractors would come out here and they contacted me before coming in. They gave me a time and they were just about right on time when they got here. They looked at everything. We were having problems with our water lines and they repaired them. We were also having trouble with our washing machine. We had to order a new part for the washing machine and it took about a week to get it in. When the guy got it, he called and came out. He put it in within half an hour. The experience with AHS was very good and I had no problems.

I do everything over the phone and I like talking to a person. I don’t trust the online. However, my biggest problem is the people with scheduling because when I needed some, I had to wait and wait. When I'd call back, they would say that the technician would not make it on that day. American Home Shield’s taking my money out of my checking account and I’m not getting any service. But when the technicians come out, they’re very polite and professional.
When the faucet handle broke, NW Sundance came out to replace it with a new one. After they put it in, I noticed under that that the water was coming out from a certain part of the faucet so then I called them again. The guy worked on it and whatever was going on came apart. He went out and got me a new faucet. When my furnace went out, it was one of the coldest times where I live. I had to wait quite a while and I didn’t have heat. And they didn’t do like they did this time. They said that I didn’t have to wait and that they'd get somebody out immediately to fix that.

I guessed that the tech had to change the switch out but he said there was a lot more wrong with the stovetop than that. He did a lot of work on it and everything has been performing and operating very well since he repaired it. Now, I can use the stovetop again which is nice. I had a bad experience when I finally needed American Home Shield other than some ticky-tacky little stuff that they worked on before. This was a significant air conditioning problem. And I went to their vendor and the vendor didn't perform, and so I hold American Home Shield responsible. But then, American Home Shield did not timely approve the work that needed to be done. And so, I canceled it, and I thought it was terrible.
The air conditioning wasn't cooling the way it was supposed to. And on a very timely basis, the company came out and said, "Yes, this would need a new evaporator coil." But then, somehow within that air conditioning company, it never got through. And the air conditioning company after we complained, sent out somebody two days later to do the same thing the guy had already done. He had turned my air conditioning off because he was worried I'd burn off the coil. It turned out it didn't have air going. Today would have been the first day I wouldn't have had air conditioning if I stayed with American Home Shield.
AHS called me yesterday and said, "Oh, we have approved your claim." But I told them I already quit permanently just Tuesday night. The contractor didn't get their communications right because they never sent the information to American Home Shield until Sunday night after the second guy came out. When I cancelled, I just got the form letter then got the cancellation fee, and I want six months of my payments refunded. So, I would probably be calling them today or tomorrow to see about that.

I have been a customer of the concern for some time. In the past their customer service has been acceptable. Several months ago, I noticed that the water pressure in the home was becoming very low. I checked the pressure outside the house and the pressure was good. I obviously had a plumbing problem, the pressure regulator or a leak could be the problem. I called customer service and was told if no leak visible at a faucet, they would not help me. Finally the pressure inside the home dropped to a thin stream. I called a plumber and he replaced the pressure regulator which did not help.
Finally the problem was located at the water softener. I contacted American Shield and was told that the plumbing, garbage disposal, etc was covered but not the water softener. I understand that, I feel they should have helped when I reported the problem initially, I feel that they had a responsibility to help with the plumber replacing the pressure regulator and determining the problem with the water problem.

I have experienced nothing but exceptionally bad customer service with this company. Supposedly, their coverage is fantastic, or at least that is what I was told when I bought my home back in September 2018, but I have yet to experience anything that has been actually covered. In November 2018, the pipes under my kitchen sink corroded and basically crumbled like paper. I called American Home Shield and let them know that I had a leak and that the pipes were corroded. The woman I spoke with was very condescending and told me that leaks are covered in my policy, but corrosion was not. So, because I was an educated person that knew the leak was due to corrosion, they would not send someone out to fix it. It was a fantastic Thanksgiving, let me tell you.
My next experience was May 2019 when we first turned our Air Conditioning on and found that it was not blowing cold air. Someone came out and found a leak, repaired it and then let me know that I would have to pay $500 out of pocket because AHS does not cover refrigerant. Two and a half days later, my A/C stopped blowing cold yet again. I called the gentleman who did the prior work and he said that I needed to contact AHS to order a recall for service and that he would get back out right away. I called AHS and they told me that I would have to pay an additional $75 dollars for the service order. I explained to them the situation and they said because I clicked "Pre-Season Check" instead of "A/C Service" that I had to pay AGAIN. I tried to explain the situation 100 different ways. I spoke to two different women who were extremely unhelpful, condescending, and refused to understand or even care about what I was saying. I was extremely frustrated and angered to tears.
I have a 3-year-old daughter, it is 90 degrees, I just need my air conditioning to work! "Nope, sorry, you clicked the wrong button, ma’am." Even though it would have been EXACTLY the same $75 if I clicked the "right" button. I just dished out $500 to get my A/C working, it lasted TWO DAYS and now you want me to pay you another $75. I finally broke down and submitted my service order and paid the extra $75, I mean, after all, I would really like to avoid my daughter having a heat stroke!
When the request confirmation came, the service was set up with a completely different company. This is the exact situation I was trying to avoid by ordering a recall. The women I spoke with, unfortunately, did not care at all about what is best for me as their client. It is quite obvious that they are after every dollar they can rip out of a single mother’s hands! I will definitely be looking for a different Home Warranty Company when my warranty is up. They might have great coverage for some things, but in my book customer service is everything.
I hate to hear that the warranty has not been beneficial to you Kelcey. I just sent you an email in an effort to learn more about your experience.

It cost us for an air conditioning person to come out and fix our AC then it broke that night. American Home Shield sent somebody out and the technician started a fire on our breaker box. An electrician was sent out to fix that. AHS then sent the air conditioner person again and that person told us we should not fix the AC because in January there is going to be a change over from Freon so fixing the AC would be a total waste. If it breaks again, I would be taxed for changing to a new system because if I repaired it, the AC wouldn’t be up to code. I got a second opinion thinking maybe we really could save this AC. I paid for it. The guy who came agreed that it should not be fixed.
On Sunday I called American Home Shield and had one discussion with a supervisor. He agreed not to get the AC fixed and to do a cash-out, but they won’t tell me how much. They would tell me on Monday. But they didn’t call me on Monday and Tuesday. I called them on both days. On Tuesday, it became 48 hours instead of 24 hours. I want an answer. I live in San Antonio. Today it’s raining and it's not that bad. But it’s been about 11 days that I haven't had air conditioning. I don’t even want AHS to be responsible for the air conditioning anymore. I’m quite willing to become responsible for it myself. I have a daughter who is very good at tweeting and if AHS doesn't call me today and tell me how much the cash-out price is and it’s not reasonable, then we’re gonna start tweeting.
Barbara,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

We are in storm central area then I heard what I thought was hale on our furnace plenum and it was too loud. My husband went outside and it was our air-conditioner. We shut it off and my husband tried to fix it and get the wire out of the blade to keep it from sharding out. We filed a claim to AHS then a gentleman came right on time and he couldn’t have been nicer. He fixed it and it works great and we couldn’t be happier.
There is a company named Action Mechanical that AHS sent out when we first had our water heater went out. Two gentlemen came and took all the information they needed. They took pictures and said that their boss would call us with an estimate. The boss called and he was a real smug, smart, nasty man. He told us that the money that the insurance company would give them is not gonna be enough. We’re gonna need $1,450 more. I said that the water heater is covered and asked why we would have to pay that. He said that there are external parts that AHS doesn’t cover and we needed those. I told him not to come back. These people have been known to take air-conditioners out of people’s backyards and not bring them back until there’s a big fight over it. They’re horrible. It was like a nightmare. If one reads online, they’re awful.
I decided to talk to a person when I book these and get somebody else because I don’t want them in my home. They’re crooks and AHS is associated with crooks. That’s not good ‘cause I know AHS are good people. They need to get somebody else in their list. Have somebody do some research. The contractors might be inexpensive for AHS to pay but AHS might end up paying more. Overall, we appreciate the service. We’ve had wonderful people here and things were repaired all but one time, on the first time and that was because the contractor needed a part. It’s been a good experience and we hope that AHS will allow us to be their customer for years to come.

I have recommended American Home Shield to people. Submitting claims through them is sometimes alright. If they have a high volume of calls, it's hard. You get through, but you get a long waiting time. Doing it online is easy though. I've had them send out Choice Plumbing and I asked them not to send them last time because one of their employees stole something out of my basement. They sent them anyway. I don't blame the company or American Home Shield for an employee stealing because they don't know they did it. But every time they came after that, we just watched them. We never let the technician alone in the basement again. My son is a mechanic and he has expensive tools down there. Choice Plumbing replaced my hot water heater. American Home Shield paid of it and I just paid the $75 fee. And I got a nice and expensive water heater. It's a gigantic one that's digital for 75 bucks.
However, I'm having a problem now and this is the first time I've had this kind of problem where I had to wait. I called them a couple of weeks ago over my air conditioning and it's still not fixed. It would run but it wouldn't get cold. LLC Plumbing came out and the technician was a very old gentleman. He said that my coil above my furnace unit is leaking and I lost all my Freon, and it would take a week before American Home Shield would get back to me. It's been a week. That wasn't true when Choice replaced my hot water heater. I'm gonna call them today and find out if they okayed for me to get that fixed.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Sherri. I am glad that we were able to replace your water heater. Have a great day.

Last year, we didn’t have any Freon on the AC unit so we didn’t have air conditioning. American Home Shield sent out a local company, Home Comfort, and they proceeded to fill the unit with Freon without checking for any leaks. This year comes around and we had a horrible winter. What I didn’t understand was heating takes Freon as well. We suffered the entire winter with less than appropriate heat because I didn’t know there was a problem. We just bought this place and thought that’s just what we were gonna have to put up with.
Then it came the time to use the air conditioning in the spring and it was not working. It didn’t even blow cold air. So, we called American Home Shield again and they sent out Temperature Pros. They looked for a leak and they found it. They replaced some parts and the motor that was bad. It stank our house so bad with the chemical smell. My husband was on oxygen. He just was recovering from pneumonia and his nose was burning. His chest was hurting. It’s been since about May 11th since we have had heat or air conditioning. It’s now June 6th and they’re coming tomorrow to replace the motor that they just replaced last week, which was not their fault. It was a bad part.
It’s been very long months and I am so thankful that our weather has been unbelievably perfect. I haven’t even missed the air conditioning or heat except for a couple of days that I would’ve liked to have AC. It’s also been very long months working with Temperature Pros. Upon the first phone call I received from them, I was excited to meet their people because the gals in the office, both Jodie and Sophie, are stellar. I’m not just another number. I am a customer. I am a friend. They treated me that way from the first phone call.
American Home Shield is another story. It’d be nice if they hired people that spoke English as a first language instead of a third. One day, this gal was talking to me and I was just like, “Man, I don’t have any idea what you’re saying.” It just makes a phone call long and frustrating. I said, “Can I talk to somebody else?” She said, “Yeah, you can hang up then call back.” So, I hung up and called back. I swear, I got her sister. I pay a monthly fee and that’s the service I get from American Home Shield. It’s a five-minute phone call turning into a 15-minute phone call because I can’t understand.
Funny thing is, I put Temperature Pros' phone number in my cell phone. I thought from hearing the American Home Shield’s people that their name was Temperature Frost. I was like, “What a weird name.” I put Temperature Frost on my phone. Then they called me. They don’t know how to say their O. That’s the kind of thing I just don’t have time for. It’s great for somebody of another nationality to have jobs here but maybe not telephone jobs.
But I am thankful that I bought a home warranty. I’ve never bought a home warranty in my life. American Home Shield is covering a large portion of an expense that I would have been stuck with. It is a budgeted expense now instead of a, “Oh, what am I gonna do now?” I am thankful even though I have frustrations talking with them. I want to have a telephone conversation with somebody who’s knowledgeable and who can actually speak English and talk back to me. I don’t think it’s really that much to ask.

My thermostat wasn’t working and I didn't even turn the air off because I couldn’t see the numbers. So I called American Home Shield and Total Air Care finally came on Friday. But then the lines were frozen so the technician couldn't check the rest of the unit. Then I called back to American Home Shield on Monday to see if the guy had turned in the report so American Home Shield could make sure they are sending somebody right back out because it was 100 degrees in Louisiana the whole weekend so the lines were all defrosted by Sunday. I called again yesterday and someone said they spoke to Total Care. They were supposed to call me yesterday evening and let me know what time they were coming but they never called.
I have been uncomfortable since Tuesday last week so it made a week yesterday. And I’m going out of town this weekend so I'm gonna have to find somebody to open my house to them whenever they decide to come. So I have not had a good experience. This left a bitter taste in my mouth because I’m a school assistant and I just got off of work from working in the school but on my first week off, I’ve been living in this extreme heat. I had to end up trying to find another place to sleep at night because the heat was unbearable.
When you have a national company like American Home Shield, you shouldn’t just have one company that you’re working with for a whole region. I asked the representative why they don't have other local providers to contract with. They're a large company and the weather has been hot every summer in Louisiana and the Southern states. So I don't see why they don't have more companies and he didn't have an answer for me. They need to start looking into stuff like that. From what I heard, American Home Shield has the most number of customers out of all the home warranty companies. I checked the rating before I went with them and I’ve heard good things about them from other people and I believe in giving people chances but this is ridiculous. I already paid for this month but I’ll probably end up dropping them after.

I set up the claim online to get my air conditioner. The contractor came out the next day and he was quick. The thermostat that the alarm system put in didn't connect one of the wires right and he fixed it in five minutes. He checked out everything and made sure everything was working. Then the same day, the washer and dryer guy came out. It needed a bearing or a tub for the washer that is getting replaced by their guys now. I'm waiting to get the parts of the dryer 'cause it was less expensive and the contractor would call me, set up a time to come out and fix that. Overall, I have recommended American Home Shield.

When I spoke to the lady from ConsumerAffairs to give a review I told her that I was very happy with the way American Home Shield was handling the complaints that I had. They did bend over backward to make sure that I was happy. It was the people they used to do the work that I was not happy with. American Home Shield stayed on top of everything until my issues were resolved.
Original Review: June 2, 2019
I had used American Home Shield before for my own home and we ended up getting a new air conditioner, furnace and some new appliances, so we dropped it. Then we bought a condo out in Colorado, and I thought it would be a good thing to have ‘cause we don’t live there. In the early part of May, we made a claim for the dishwasher and a tech guy came out, and he said we needed a plumber. So, we put in a claim for a plumber. A couple of different people came out and they never fixed the problem. One plumber even told my son who lives there to go out and buy two toilets and to call him directly. He’d give us a discount to put them in, which I didn’t like at all.
I called and complained because nobody ever told us what the problem was to begin with. They just said we needed a plumber. American Home Shield bent over backwards to try to make this right. They got it resolved to where they put in two new toilets. Then my son called and said the disposal was not working and it was backing up food. Nothing was resolved with it. There was still water in the bottom of the dishwasher after it was repaired, so they couldn't use it.

AHS has been very good. Though some of the companies that they have used are not the best, they've been very professional. Also, when we've called to say "Hey this isn't working", they've sent out some other contractor. We had a furnace replaced in March but then the contractor who installed the furnace had to come back a couple of times because it wasn't installed properly. That was in March and we're in Chicago so it was cold.
More recently, it got here and we turned the air conditioning that's associated with that furnace on and it didn't work. So, I had to have somebody new come out. It turned out that the people who had installed the furnace had hooked up the AC unit incorrectly. So, the new contractor was able to fix it. But then, it took three and a half hours to figure out that the furnace had been hooked up improperly. Also, I ended up paying two call-out fees.
I called American Home Shield after I ended up paying the $75 to have the AC unit diagnosed and their reps said that the $75 is for the call out and there was nothing they could do about it. I could try to get it back from the company that installed the furnace but then that's hard to do. Still, AHS has been fine overall. Though once or twice there has been a contractor who is less than ideal, their people have been very helpful. They’re knowledgeable and they really try to understand the issue. We've been happy.

The AC was making some loud noise, and it wasn't blowing properly. I had to do the online chat first to find out what to do, and then American Home Shield told me to call the number and they did the rest. The guy that came seemed pretty efficient. He checked everything and I had to fill the coolant up, and it wouldn't make noise so I'm guessing he couldn't find exactly what it was. The AC started the same thing again, and I called the people back. We had 100 degree weather for the last two weeks, and it was a Monday when I called and I didn't get service until Saturday. That was grueling. American Home Shield has to search around for somebody that's reputable but able to get out to provide a service sooner. Still, I would recommend them.

I was with American Home Shield and I had a bad experience with them. I went to another home warranty and had a worse experience there so I came back to American Home Shield. When I had an issue with the tub drain, One Source Plumbing came out pretty promptly and everything was handled good. This experience has been a lot better than the last time. American Home Shield must have refined their program because my monthly service fee was starting to just go up. It seemed like it's almost every six months. When I went back to them, it was lower than when I came when I ended with them. The other company was cheaper, but they also didn't cover a lot of the stuff.
For example, the plumber wasn't sure to get to the drain if he would've had to go through the ceiling of my garage 'cause it was on the second floor. And if they open up a hole to fix the damage, they leave the hole open. It is up to the property owner to get the hole fixed. I remember when I was with American Home Shield, I had another leak in my big Jacuzzi tub in my master bedroom which was upstairs. They opened the hole, went up in there, fixed it, and closed the hole. The only thing I had to do was the texture. I got somebody to come and do the texture and paint which was nothing. But the other home warranty company didn't even put the drywall back in there. They left the hole open and just stuck with it. So, that's one of the main reasons why I left them and went back to American Home Shield.
The only thing that they have better than American Home Shield, which I think American Home Shield is working on, is what they have in the package. I upgraded to platinum and they covered all my electronics. But when I signed up with American Home Shield a month or two ago, the lady told me that they are doing it in some states, but it hasn't reached Nevada and Arizona. I'm still with the other home warranty on my electronic components.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

It has been a couple years that we've had American Home Shield and it's usually very easy to file a claim. You just call it in and then someone will call back, pick up the job and come fix whatever has to be fixed. This time, the sink was leaking on the bottom of the sink so we called it in for someone to come repair it. But you pay every month for the warranty and then you still gotta pay $75. It used to be cheaper than that. On the other hand, everything we've gotten has been fixed correctly so we've never had to have the contractors come back out.
Your feedback is more than appreciated. We are glad to hear about your experience and the repairs that are complete.

American Home Shield is very timely, and everyone they've sent has been very good. I just renewed for the third year and I've already recommended them to a friend.

I’ve had American Home Shield before when we were in California. We bought a house and they provided the service there. We replaced the water heater with them and they were good. Here, the experience was good too. The guy they referred got back to me right away. When I talked to AHS reps over the phone, they were very friendly. When I told them about the issue, I did it online and the contractor called me the same day. There was an LED panel that went out that controls the oven. The contractor got the part number and ordered it. He later contacted me that the part was no longer available and sent me a copy of the order. The diagnosis had been completed and turned over back to the warranty company to address the issue. They okayed the replacement according to the document but I haven’t heard from anybody yet.

Whenever I have an issue, I usually call or try to go online. I pay my $125 maintenance fee and American Home Shield is always getting me someone within 24 to 48 hours and the problem has been resolved. If it's something that needs to be replaced, they replace it. They come fix it if they could. They don't have to charge right away. It can wait 'till the contractor comes out and the job is completed before they charge the 125. That's my only complaint, but that's their policy. The contractors they've sent were all professional, easy, no problems. Recently, the fuse in the AC needed to be replaced and they sent Metro Air Services out. I've used AHS for my primary residence and my rental property and both experiences have been great.

The hot water pressure in the kitchen sink was very low and it wasn’t getting hot. I also had a leak in the water filter dispenser. I filled out something online with American home Shield and they assigned Bear Plumbing who then called me. They couldn't make the appointment on time when I was gonna pick my son from school, so they said they would send a guy out on Saturday to fix it. I was okay with that. Then the two guys came right at the right time that they said. They’re both really nice guys. They fixed my issues and everything worked out okay.
There are little things hidden in the fine print in the contract with AHS. For instance, on our water filter claim, the two repairmen got there and said that they were not allowed to fix it and that they only fix something else. Sometimes, the repair company that AHS choose to send aren’t the greatest. But Bear Plumbing happened to be good. I’ve had some poor experiences with them. But all in all, I was happy with this last claim we had. Also, the people over at AHS are handcuffed by the wording of the contract or the dumb diagnosis that their contractor gives me. But most of the people over there that I spoke to seemed very nice and helpful.

When I first bought my home 18 months ago, I got AHS. Upon having my first issue in the house, something simple in main bathroom, handle came off. They sent someone out a few days later, then told they would need to order part. 10 days later the company returned and attached piece to fix handle. A few months later, same handle broke off sheering the metal it was attached to off. Come to find out that the part they company had ordered wasn't the correct part and they had rigged it using the wrong part, which is what caused the the metal it was attached to sheer off. When I tried to have it repaired correctly I was told by AHS that they never authorized the original repair, and they would not fix it! I then had to pay $800 out of pocket to fix something an AHS tech had broken. The customer service with AHS is always a runaround and you can never speak to a supervisor!

I’ve had American Home Shield since around 1997 with an exception of about two years of hiatus when I was transferred out of town. And so far, my experience has been good. But I don’t like that I can’t really get ahold of anybody by phone. When my sump pump went out, I went online to submit a claim. But sometimes, I may have a question and it's not one of my choices online. So I don’t know how to ask it or how long it would take if I leave a message. It’s not just Home Shield though. It seems to be the nature of the beast for the internet.
The contractor was D & L Plumbing and I’ve used them before at the request of Home Shield. They came out very quickly and were very professional. They did a replacement but about three weeks later, it went out again. So I went online to Home Shield and explained that to them. They called D & L out again for a callback and they had it replaced in a matter of 30 minutes. So far, it’s been working fine. But there’s nothing being held here. It’s just a bad pump.

One gentleman I talked to was very difficult to understand and I had to ask for a supervisor. Then, there was a lady and she was well-spoken, but she was not very customer-friendly. One Call Contractors came out the next day for the electrical issue and they did a good job.
Also, American Home Shield sent a contractor out in 2017 and the work that the person had done didn’t install the garbage disposal properly, which was also brought to our attention by the home instructor. I’m 100% disabled and I couldn’t get up underneath to inspect somebody’s work under the sink. It's a fire hazard and it’s still not fixed. American Home Shield said that they would have to charge me again for someone to come out which rubs me the wrong way because I already paid. I'm still waiting to get that resolved. But it’s very difficult to get American Home Shield to get good customer service these days. They follow a script and it’s not an easy process. But when you go a complete year or two with no claim, why would the rate be going up? It’s a little frustrating.
American Home Shield also ended up removing my water softener without notification some years ago. I guess that’s something that was just completely dropped as a coverage. If I was notified of it, it was probably in small print because I read most of the documents that come through, or at least skim through them, and it wasn’t in bold. But that is like a major change and should have been the first thing you see on the paperwork. I was a little bit blindsided on that. But those are the only two things. I call American Home Shield when I have a claim and the reps are straightforward. Then this depends on the company coming out but usually, they come out within the same week. Gold Coast Appliance is one of the companies that American Home Shield has sent out. That company pretty much worked on through all my appliances and they did well.

They gave me Elite Electric Solutions and I immediately called them. They scheduled me and two electricians came. It was an awesome experience with them. They were friendly and informative. I was asking some questions, they made some adjustments and they also made some recommendations.
After the repair, the fans worked well. But one of them wasn't working. It was very slow. So I called the contractor and they were very nice and polite. They told me to call AHS to do a recall and I did that. Then we rescheduled a date when they would come. All in all, AHS has always been very good for me. Sometimes though I have to wait a very long time trying to book something. It's because I always want to speak with a live person and I know everybody's busy. Other than that, it's been great for me and I have always recommended American Home Shield to everyone.

I put in a request over the phone for our freezer that was not cooling properly. A guy came out, replaced a part, and my wife was pleased. Our freezer isn't thawing out anymore, so everything's good. However, American Home Shield's website is impossible to get around and figure out. You can't tell what's due or anything else. It's very poor. I also kept getting paper bills saying an amount was past due and I knew it wasn't. It was confusing, so I confirmed by phone and it wasn't past due. Almost every other website, where there's payment involved, there is a way to set up or make a payment. It was like I couldn't get AHS to take my money. Still, even though it was hard to get done, our issue with billing has been straightened out now because they're billing my credit card on a monthly basis.

The AC unit was blowing but not cooling, so we submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the online process was very easy. MJS Mechanical came the same day as I made the notification request. They were professional but the work has not yet been completed. They left for a part and no one has contacted me what's gonna be the next step since they left. Also, they did not give me a time frame. It has been two days and the unit is not working.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield sent out Molina’s Air Conditioning & Heating because our air was out. They weren’t sure if it was the air because they noticed that one of the breakers to the air conditioner had burnt. Before they could see about the air conditioner, an electrician had to come and do what he had to do. An electrician came, found the diagnosis and turned it in to American Home Shield. The breaker that was burnt needed to be replaced. We're waiting for American Home Shield to tell the technicians they can fix it because our air is still out.
We've had American Home Shield for over 10 years. Whenever I have a claim, I do it on the internet because it's faster. I tell everybody tthe company is great and we won't go without them ever. My son signed up with them when he bought his home and my friend called me the other day asking about the warranty company that I have.

I've had American Home Shield for over two years. Their claims process is very easy and I appreciate that except for one claim. Our spa was leaking. I added additional insurance for the inground spa and I had a plumbing issue for the spa but that option wasn’t there. When I clicked on plumbing, it was under it. It was not a pool-related one so I had to call instead of filing the claim online.
American Home Shield sent out Aqua Check and they came the next day immediately. But later, they told me they couldn't fix it. They were waiting on the insurance company to approve the fix. I waited over the weekend, for a few days then they came over. The technician was a very nice person and he fixed everything. I was happy with his service. Overall, it was good except for the waiting in the middle part.

I noticed my AC compressor was making much noise and it just got to where I had turn it off. I called Home Shield and paid for the service call. And then I put in the thermostat on it, it kicks on and the thing just kinda worked for a minute so I cancelled the claim. The next day, the thing crashed again so I have to call them back. They called the Watters Heat & Air and I contacted them again, too, and they came out while we were at work. A couple days later, they replaced the control board and fixed the problem. The claims process was simple. I didn’t even get to meet the contractors because I was at work. My wife was at work as well. I just left the key in the mailbox and told them, “Help yourself.” They knew what they were doing. I would recommend the service.

The first half of the time that the contractor was here, I wasn’t home. So, he was almost done with the work when I got home. He explained what he did to me. At that time, he didn’t think the problem was fixed yet. He said he had to come back. But then the pool heater just turned on on its own, and we tested it a few times, and it seemed to work. So, we concluded that it’s been resolved.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for probably more than 20 years ‘cause I’ve had them on different homes. Over the years, I have been reasonably happy. There are occasions where you don’t hear from a contractor and you have to go chase them. Some contractors are better than others. I keep all the receipts and I make a comment on there to the degree I can request somebody in the future.
Recently, I had a garage exhaust fan that stopped working. The motor was running but the blade wasn’t turning. I did not do the claim online because I had already had the same repair a couple times over the last 10 years. I live in Arizona, so the fan runs fairly frequently and continuously. The times before, they would send out somebody from air conditioning. They'd say, “No, we don’t do this. This is an exhaust fan. You have to call an electrician.” So, I would call back, and they would send out an electrician. I was already leery of the issue, and I wanted to be specific because American Home Shield's categories don’t quite cover it. I talked to a customer service person and was very specific. The first time, she referred someone to me and for whatever reasons, we did not connect. I didn’t think he was calling me back, and he couldn't seem to get ahold of me. It turned out to be the guy who eventually came.
So, I called back early the following week and I told the agent that I had not heard from the contractor and asked would they send somebody else out. They assigned a new electrical company, and I again explained to them that they need to be specific and make sure that these people, whoever they sent, worked on these kinds of things. They assigned a new company who got ahold of me right away and came out right away. Tim looked at it and said, “Oh no, we don’t work on these. I will go back and get ahold of American Home Shield and make sure they understand that it is a garage ceiling exhaust fan and they need to send somebody else.”
I then get a call from American Home Shield a few days later, and since I wasn’t home, it was sent to the voice mail. It was saying that they had received a report from the contractor that said it is an industrial fan and is not covered under a certain section in the contract. They could not service it. I then had to call back again and I finally found a receptive agent and explained the history and the guy who came out to see it. It’s not an industrial fan. It’s a ceiling exhaust fan. They cover attic exhaust fans, and this is even more accessible than an attic exhaust fan.
They then sent out the guy who eventually came and this time, we connected. He was excellent. It turned out that he had worked out this thing years before. He got up there and looked at it. The blade had gotten stuck and had snapped off from the bearing. He said it was not fixable and it had to be replaced. By this time, we were starting to get into the 90s here. I was concerned because in Tucson, this thing is imperative, and we knew we’re getting into the 100s.
He said, “I first have to get approval from AHS. As soon as I do, I will try and find one and I hope to be back in a couple of days. I’ll call you before I come.” The next morning, they were at the door, saying, “Look, we found it and we had a chance to put it in, and we’re gonna put it in right now.” They did have to get up on the roof to reinstall it, but it took them 15 minutes to replace the unit. So, it ended well. It was an unpleasant journey getting there but everything is working fine.

I had good experiences with American Home Shield but I also had two bad experiences for the latency on what was going on. A tech came in for my refrigerator, looked at the problem and stated that a compressor needed to be ordered. That was done but when he came back out to install the compressor, it was before a holiday and he basically said he was ready to his holiday weekend started. He walked out, saw the part that was ordered and said he couldn't do the part because he wasn’t given enough time to do it. He said this was more of a re-call so he was gonna see if they could reschedule me then he left.
So I called the company back and told them what their tech had said. The agent on the phone apologized then sent him right back to do it. He proceeded to install the compressor but about two hours into it, he basically said he couldn't do it and left. There was nothing told to me, if a part needed to be ordered, if he was coming back or whatever the case may have been on why it wasn’t completed. So I went back and forth with American Home Shield about this particular company. For almost a week, the technician didn't call in the reason why he could not complete the job. So another company, A Dobre Day, was called in to see if they could complete the job. But A Dobre Day said he had taken everything apart so they could not touch it. They didn’t know exactly what he did. They just knew he took the refrigerator apart.
But the tech who came and the young lady who works in the office were very professional. They helped me as much as they could. A Dobre Day reached out to me and explained what the process was. They also called American Home Shield to let them know exactly what their findings were. So then American Home Shield reached out to me and basically said the same thing that that company said. Because it was the previous company that did the mess-up, they were gonna send that company back out to either fix the problem or restore the refrigerator back to its original state before they started.
So the request went back out to the previous company. I got a phone call from their agent and their agent told me that they were trying to figure out what was wrong with my refrigerator so they could send a tech out. I went through the whole spiel as if I hadn't been dealing with them for a month. That particular company's receptionist said that the tech hadn't even told them what's wrong. Nothing had been turned in from this particular tech about the refrigerator at my home. So that particular agent had to reach out to the manager of that tech. Finally, later on that day, the agent called back. She said that from what she was told, the cost of the parts is gonna be more than the cost of the refrigerator so American Home Shield is gonna reach out to me and replace the refrigerator. That was on Friday, and I haven't heard anything since.
American Home Shield was helping me out more in the beginning. I had an incident with my dishwasher some time ago and when they said that they would replace it, they immediately sent me an email of what's recommended along with additional dishwashers that I could choose from. But I ran into an issue with my washing machine and it was more of somebody dropped the ball. I was told American Home Shield was gonna replace the unit and American Home Shield also stated that they were gonna replace it. But for three weeks, no one called to say when. I never received the email or another call, and that went on for almost a month.
Finally, I called and the agent said it was showing in their computer that I was gonna get the new washing machine but that no one had called me and no one had sent out the email. So then they referred me to the appliance replacement department and they were able to do it over the phone. I wasn’t able to look at it because I had been without a washing machine for a couple of months and I just needed one to actually get things done.

The blower outside would not come on. I called American Home Shield and they were saying they needed to go ahead and get payment. I had no choice. If I was gonna get service, I had to go ahead and arrange payment. I would rather have gone ahead and given them my payment information but let them not charge my account until the work is done and I’m satisfied with it. I hate paying for things in advance because then I have no recourse if I’m not happy.
I called on a Tuesday and their first vendor said that they could come out but it would be Wednesday of the following week. My city was going through a record-setting heat wave and I thought I had heard American Home Shield has a 48-hour policy. I said I wasn't waiting until Wednesday of next week. I called American Home Shield back and told them we needed to find somebody else. They found somebody that could come out that Friday. That wasn’t immediate but it was a lot better than Wednesday of the following week.
That vendor came out and I was thinking they were not American Home Shield's number one vendor, but I’d rather go ahead and get it looked at. I ended up really liking this vendor. The guy was fairly young but he was very knowledgeable. By the time he left, I was very impressed with him. If I had another AC problem, I might even request this vendor. This was my first time to use American Home Shield and my overall experience was good. I’m not wanting to give up the service.

Making claims is real simple now ‘cause you just go on and say you have a problem and submit the fee. Within a day or so, the guys will call and make an appointment to come out. There was one case where we had a dishwasher that wasn’t working right, and AHS sent somebody out who was a one-person company. He came out, had no idea what he was doing, indiscriminately replaced the part which didn’t fix the problem, wouldn’t return any phone calls and wouldn’t come back out. We worked with American Home Shield customer service and finally, they capitulated and sent General Electric professionals out, and they fixed the problem.
Everybody else that has come out here over the years has done a great job. Recently our garbage disposal was leaking at the bottom, and JF Whitlow, Jr. & Sons came out and replaced it. Everything’s fine, so they did a great job. I would certainly recommend American Home Shield because of how easy it is to put in a service request and how quickly you get a response. American Home Shield was part of our closing deal after recently purchasing our home (not our choice). We were only here about a month and my husband noticed the compressor wasn’t running or sounding correctly so we made a service request. One week later a tech showed up and said it was fine, added some Freon and left. And now not even two weeks later we had to make another service request. This time the AC is completely out! It took them 5 days to even get a tech out, 5 days no AC! He came only to tell us the compressor needs to be changed, oh really?!?! But bc nothing was running he isn’t sure. So now once he writes up his “diagnoses” it has to be approved, so more waiting, then ordered, more waiting! It is 90 degrees currently in Louisiana. We’ve had to go spend $500 on window AC units to keep us from dying of heat exhaustion and so the things in our NEW home don't start to mildew.
I really feel they are dishonest and are only worried about making money. After all it is $75 every time someone is called out and the mark up on Freon is triple and everything has loopholes to screw you. They only want to try and “Repair” things not truly fix or replace/change out. We were told we were getting a great warranty with American Home Shield warranty company when we signed our closing paper. We were definitely lied to. The bottom line is terrible coverage and even worse customer service because they do not care about your problem!

My washing machine broke on April 21. On the 22nd we called and set up our first appointment. The technician came out, saw what was wrong and ordered parts. The next time out he replaced the motor and condenser. Unfortunately he didn’t replace the transmission and clutch assembly that was broken. Out he comes again and says it’s broken and can’t be fixed. Five days later I find out they have ordered the parts and it will take 10 days to get them in. He shows up today - spends two hours taking it apart - it’s corroded and doesn’t have the parts. Now I have to take time off work again for them to come back. I’ve been without a washer for over a month. This should have been replaced day one. Run away, don’t use this company.

Absolutely horrible experience and wouldn't recommend at all. On Wednesday 5-31-2019 our HVAC stopped working. I called on Wednesday at 9:15 to place a claim. I was sent a follow up email that said a vendor would contact us to schedule an appointment. Thursday came and went without any phone call or email to set a appointment. I called the claims department to alert them that the vendor assigned was unresponsive. They said that they would reassign it and I would hear from them. Not trusting their system I requested the phone number to their vendor. I was given the number by the claims department and when I called they explained that they might be able to get me scheduled for Monday afternoon 5 days after the claim was filed.
I called the claims department back and voice my concerns with sitting in a hot house with no HVAC for 5-6 days and they couldn't have cared less. The worse part is I called 3 separate companies and all 3 could make it in the same day and 1 within a hours time. I gave the claims associate this info and her response was no outside vendors were allowed to perform the work unless none of their vendors are available even if they are scheduled out a week. Bad experience and have already signed up with a new Warranty Company.
I apologize for the delay in service & the overall way your work ordered was handled. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience.

After 2 weeks and 16+ hours of phone calls, I was finally able to get the service follow-up I had been promised. AHS even approved a repair that wasn’t covered by my original contract. While the final outcome was very good, I give only 3 stars because, in my opinion, getting this resolution should not have taken so much of my time and effort. That said, AHS did finally make good on their promises and even went above their obligations on the repair.

Updated on 06/10/2019: So, after writing a bad review and fighting with 5 different managers over 8 hours on May 31, 2019, I *finally* was promised a new electrician would be dispatched to my house this morning, June 10, 2019. Unfortunately, American Home Shield decided to cancel the work order on June 7, 2019 without telling me. In fact, I didn’t find out about the cancellation until I called the electrician to ask why he hadn’t arrived yet (after taking a day off work, of course).
So, I called their service line and, as of right now: 8:45 AM CST, June 10, 2018; I have spent an hour fighting with a customer rep who claims all the notes from my previous conversations somehow aren’t showing up in her computer. I’ve asked 6 times to be transferred to a manager and am met with nothing but excuses about “high call volume” and “I don’t see the notes here where you spoke with all those other managers.” This company is a joke and I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy.
Original Review: Bought a house on May 1, 2019 with an AHS warranty covering essential systems like electrical, HVAC, etc. Oven wasn't working on move-in despite working during inspection. GE tech explained the house's supply power was not balanced and needed evaluation by an electrician. AHS sent a tech from R&M Electric out of St. Louis MO. Tech came over, broke my oven door while moving the appliance, claimed the house wiring was bad all the way to the breaker box because he's an idiot who doesn't know 4-wire ovens may be connected to 3-wire supply circuits, refused to replace the door he broke and never submitted a diagnoses to AHS.
When I called AHS to inform them of this on Saturday, May 25, I was told I would receive a refund of the $75 paid to them for the service call after either 48 hours or R&M Electric responded to my complaint. Not only did I not receive the refund as originally promised, but I was informed by another agent today, May 31, that no refund would be issued and no alternate contractor would be provided. So, I paid AHS $75 to send some incompetent "technician" over to my house and break my stuff while not diagnosing (let alone repairing) the problem. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy, let alone anyone looking for a reliable, reputable and professional warranty protection service. If I could rate at zero stars, I would.
Hi Steve,
I understand your frustration with American Home Shield and the delay in service that has been experienced to have your oven repaired. I would be glad to assist and intervene to reach a resolution.

I just had the most horrible experience with the company my warranty people used. They scheduled & cancelled on me 3 times due to a part that was "in stock" & then no it wasn't.... miscommunication between parties. AHS was blaming Total Air Care & they were blaming the AHS for not being able to order parts from specific companies and under no circumstance to order express shipping.
My dad went online & found the part & could have had it next day but the AC company stated it would take ANOTHER 5-7 days to get from this company (mind you it had already been 13 days of waiting). Not only going 23 days without air - did I find out that the original tech that came by - could have bypassed & had the AC going the whole time. If this is what I have to go through to get something repaired - I will not be renewing my warranty. I was really hoping being a single female, on a fixed budget, that this would be a lifesaver for me but it was absolutely UNACCEPTABLE.

I have got to be the cheapest person on the planet to stick with these guys. HVAC company they sent out tried to rip me off for $2000 worth of freon. And my AC unit takes 3.25 pounds of it. I of course refused, told the guys to leave. Then they called me back at 8 pm and told me I should just flip the switch next to the furnace and the AC would turn back on (didn't work). So let me guess.. They would have charged me $2000 for freon and then just gone back up and flip the switch. FYI, the scam artist of a company is HVAC SRVCS out of White Plains, NY. Complete scam artists.
I then called American Home Shield. Informed them about this. To send someone else out. Every day they keep saying wait another 24 hours for the detailed diagnosis from the HVAC company then we can. It's been five days. No AC. My regular AC service company who does my units was over two weeks ago for the tune ups. No freon required at all they said. So now I'm stuck. Still waiting on American Home Shield to even authorize sending someone else out. I have got to be the cheapest person on the planet to stay with this company. For another $100 bucks this problem would have been fixed already. Stay away, AHS is a complete scam. The contractors are horrible and try to rip you off. And AHS customer service people are completely inept. Just spend the extra $100 bucks to get the problem fixed by a reputable company.

After approval they ordered the part needed but refused to expedite shipping and it took 4 days to come in. The contractor came out to fix it last night and American Home Warranty ordered the wrong part. After calling this morning to ask to speak to a supervisor we were told that isn’t possible and the customer service rep said he was unable to do anything to compensate us for the weeks that we’ve spent in 90+ degree heat with no AC. Called back later Tuesday evening and was advised to cancel original request and create new request with 2nd contractor. Was informed 2nd contractor would contact me within 24 hours. No call from 2nd contractor. Called back on Wednesday, was informed that contractor was contacted and would call me by end of day and be at my house on Thursday morning.
Called back on Thursday to inform them that contractor did not call or come. Asked to speak with a manager and was told that was not possible as no manager was available. Called again Thursday evening and was told that I must wait until Friday morning and only then could I request a different contractor. Four days with no AC. My neighbor has had 2 contractors come and give them estimates in the time I’ve been waiting and to simply get a call back to schedule. Horrible service!!!

We noticed it was warmer in parts of the house and found out that one of our heat pumps wasn't working. We put in a service request online and within a few minutes, I had confirmation that I'd be hearing from somebody and within an hour, I did. The contractor was out the next day. He had parts with him and fixed the heat pump on the spot. It has been working flawlessly since. The contractors AHS send are nice and professional. They announce when they are coming and show up within that window. I have recommended them several times.

The two utilities I have outdoors that are bordering that patio weren't working. Anything I plugged in had to be halfway hanging out of the socket to work. I made the claim to American Home Shield and the electrician came out. He was very professional and customer service oriented. He went out, looked at the plugs and determined what the problem was. He fixed the problem and the plugs are running as new.
AHS has never let me down. I've never had a dispute over claims. They have been very upfront with replacement. Another time, when my hot water heater went down and had to be replaced, nothing was hidden about disposal fees that would come out of my pocket. I agreed with everything and everything was taken care of professionally. I was very pleased with my experience.

When West End Mechanical came the first time, I was out of town, but they’ve put a composite on it. And the next time, there was something about add-ons. But they fixed the issue both times. It’s just that I had to wait two times in the heat for them to come. American Home Shield's reps have been really nice, but I had the refrigerator out for months and months. And they finally told me to go buy me a fridge and they’d pay up for a certain amount. I sent the ticket and never got anything. When I called the first time, they said that they see that, but they didn’t see when they had gotten it. So, they had me email it, and I did that, and it still didn’t work.

The reps are always wonderful. They listen with their ears better than a husband. I submitted the claim over the phone and the timeframe for the contractor to come out is within 48 hours. But the company that American Home Shield was sending out never made it. We had two air-conditions that went out and people came out and told me I needed a new fan blower. It was Total Air Care. They were supposed to come but they didn’t come and they didn’t schedule. They were too busy. I had told American Home Shield that was gonna happen but they told me to give them a try.
I didn’t wanna be without my AC so long so I had to call for a second person. We have kids and it was too hot at the time. We had to have one AC going. CC’s Heating and AC and Refrigeration came out and the technician was great. He came out for two things – the garage doors and the air conditioner. I had told American Home Shield and requested him for both. He was direct to the point and he went right to the problem.
He said the fan was not broken and that the other guy was gonna charge us for a brand-new fan when the problem was just one little part. The guy from CC's fixed it and it was hardly anything. Boom! My AC was back on. The last few times, contractors had had to come back to re-do the AC. Now, the AC is still running. In fact, both my units are running! The other guy had been wrong! But I don’t hold American Home Shield completely responsible for the vendors that they send out. They try their best. American Home Shield makes it easy and they get right to it. I'm very satisfied with them. It was a great experience. It was quick and convenient.

I figured how to tighten up the leak. We had the plumber come down to fix it up. And so we had to turn off all of our water to the whole of our house because the shut-off valves weren’t working. We were directly without water. They said I was like a priority. And so then the plumber came the next day right in the morning and fixed them up really quick. It was great.

I had a claim for the air conditioning unit. Submitting it was great but since then, it’s been difficult. I don’t know where the problem lies whether it's with American Home Shield or the contractor. The parts for the outside unit and inside unit didn't match up. The part was never ordered and there's a little bit of difficulty getting ahold of the contractor.
I don’t know how long American Home Shield has been using the contractor, Climate Masters. It might be something to revisit or at least have someone talk to them, and maybe they can have better customer service to answer phones or at least let people know what's going on with the situation. For me to try to call them, it’s almost impossible ‘cause they don’t return phone calls. I emailed them and left them several messages. American Home Shield has called and left messages too and they don’t respond. But the actual workers are nice people. The guy that came out to put a service call was great.

So far, it's been good with American Home Shield. I didn't have a problem with the plumbing claim when the tub wouldn't drain. However, when my washing machine was making a lot of noise, the technician from Magic Appliance didn't even look at it. He turned it on, heard the noise and said it was the transmission. He didn't include that on the invoice that he submitted to American Home Shield. I found out that American Home Shield was not gonna cover it because he said it was caused by abuse by me. So then, the rep told me I had to get a second opinion.
I got somebody to come out and then they said it was the transmission. When I submitted that, they said, "No, we have to come back in a week for the second opinion." They sent somebody, and then that person said, "No, it's not the transmission. It's the drain pump," and he fixed it in 15 minutes. I got a letter from American Home Shield saying that it wasn't gonna be covered under my policy anymore until I fix the abuse I had done to it. I clarified it for the record that they had sent somebody and they fixed it. So it was taken care of. Other than the technician from Magic Appliance, everybody else has been good.

However, for the one in my master bedroom, she told me that they couldn't help me. That particular toilet kept getting clogged four or five times during the week and they could only help when there was an issue at the time, whether it was broken or clogged. It was the second time that I’ve had the contractor here and he was excellent. He wants to have a great rating, so he does everything that he can do to please his customer. American Home Shield has been great to work with for what I've used them. I've had to replace a garbage disposal, one hot water tank and my washing machine. Also, putting a service request with them is very easy and they get back to me very quickly. I had a big leak in my attic and we had spent quite a bit of money to have a leak expert come and they come back with nothing. Then when my husband went up in the attic, he noticed there was a lot of water in the pan. That's when we asked our home warranty to send someone for AC. The contractor went up there and figured out the problem. It's no longer leaking. So I'm super bummed that I had to pay for the sheetrock damage. Nevertheless, the contractor did a great job. I highly recommend AHS.

The spring on the garage door was broken. My car was stuck in the garage and I couldn’t lift the door. I had a repairman out to fix the garage door. While he was repairing the door, he told me that the garage door opener was not only in bad shape but it was also a fire hazard and unplugged it. He told me that Doors and More is affiliated with American Home Shield and he told me to go ahead and call them now.
When I called AHS, the woman that answered the phone had a very strong Indian accent and I had trouble understanding her part of the time. She started out insisting that American Home Shield didn’t have a work order to repair the garage door and I told her repeatedly that I wasn’t calling about the garage door. I was calling about the garage door opener. It took a while. But most of my dealings with AHS had been pretty good. A different representative might have had a different outcome that one time. And the guy they sent out from Doors and More was awesome and very professional.
I am not particularly computer savvy and everything is increasingly set up to be computer-friendly. But I do not have a computer. I can’t go online and set up an appointment with AHS. To set up one, I have to be in phone hell for a while where I have to go through this menu over and over again. And the first thing they wanted to do was make sure they have a credit card number so they could bill me. Then when I finally got an actual person to speak to, they'd again ask for a credit card number so they can bill me for the service fee even though the automated section already took that information. It just seems like overkill.

I’ve always had a good experience with American Home Shield, and some bad experience with others, so I just decided to continue to use them. However, they run their customer contact out of the Philippines and English is a language they have but you don’t always get someone who speaks fluently. Transactions could be done online so you don’t need to talk to someone, but when you do, either they’re not in a position to resolve your problem or you can’t understand their English and you have to call back and try to get someone else who can speak proper English.
Recently, American Home Shield sent out two different technicians for our toilet that wasn’t flushing. When the vendor got assigned to me, I looked up their reviews, and they were really bad so I asked AHS to change the vendor. They told me that they were unable to exchange the vendor. We had to proceed with this vendor. The initial technician who came out said he had repaired the toilet, but two days later, the same problem came back. It’s still overflowing. The second technician who came out seemed to be a little rushed and trying to define the problem to be something that wasn’t covered by the warranty. He came in, plungered the toilet a bit and said it was working.
I told him that this seems to be the problem with the toilet. You plunger it and an hour or a day later, the same problem comes back. So the tech came in, snaked the toilet and said that he didn’t feel anything but he’s gonna say that there is a foreign object inside that’s causing it to clog up. If he’s worked with AHS a couple of times before, he knows that the warranty doesn’t cover foreign objects and he was looking to claim that it wasn’t under warranty so that he could charge additional money. Now, I still have a toilet that isn’t working and American Home Shield is sending out a new technician. They have better reviews and I’m hopeful they will be able to resolve my issue.

The unit that has the main controls on it for filter, backwash, recirculate, etc. was cracked and I didn't know it. Somehow it had gotten stuck on backwash. So, every time they turned the pool on, it was emptying out the water. American Home Shield sent out the contractor, Aviation, and they stopped the leak. The gentleman was super-terrific. He diagnosed it and found the problem right away. He ordered the part and it was over Memorial Day weekend so that took a little bit longer. He got the part and put it in, and so far, it is working perfectly.
However, I am having difficulty submitting claims online. For some reason, I can’t get the expired contract off that website and get the new one on there. I don't even know how to change it. It doesn't really give me an option to update, and I don't know the contract number. But I can submit a claim on the phone quite easily. My husband and I have gone through a total of 4 home service contracts like this, and American Home Shield has, by far, been the best, hands down. I tell everybody, “I don't care what you’ve got, go to American Home Shield because they're the best.” They don't squabble with you, they come out, they either fix or replace, and they're prompt. Since then, everything has been fine.
I’ve been with AHS for over five years and the warranty has proven to be a lifesaver for me. My husband used to see about everything that had to do with the house but he’s in his 12th year of having Alzheimer’s. So, I don’t know anything about heating and air, and fixing the sink or repairing a toilet. He was a great fix-it guy and he would only call a professional if it was something that he was sure he didn’t know anything about. So, when he got sick, I had to think about what I would do if something breaks down in the house that we still live in. I didn’t know who to call and so I said that the best thing to do was to get a home warranty. It was a no-brainer for me. I covered all the systems in the house and all the appliances. That was the smartest thing I ever did.

I wanted regular cleaning and check-up on our AC. I filed the claim online and the process was pretty straightforward and quick. They called me the next day and scheduled the appointment. The contractors were terrific and I would use them again in a heartbeat. They answered questions. They tested stuff to make sure it was gonna hold up and we weren't gonna have to have replacements during the season, so that was really better. We had to have extra coolant added to the system and they were very clear about what it was gonna cost and what our share of it was. We didn't know that prior to them coming and it would've been more useful if we did. I got an email from American Home Shield, but I got it just before they arrived.
The biggest trick I have is that I really feel like there needs to be a space or a place that you can have some texts to say, "Go around the back door," or give some specific instructions kind of a thing. Or when you pick AC, it should come up with a prompt that says what the policy only covers if you need coolant. But everything's fine. I have recommended people to American Home Shield.

We had to file a claim on a refrigerator. It was determined that it needed to be replaced. Approval was provided for purchase and reimburse for a new appliance. We completed the claim forms and provided required supplemental documents. We were initially told a check would come within 10-14 business days of the completed claim documents. Upon submittal of the forms, an automated email said it would be up to 21 business days. Once the 21 business days had passed, we called to inquire and were told that the claim had been processed a week after the submission and a check should arrive, "probably within the week." The checks were to be coming from Memphis TN and we live in GA, for time reference.
Another week passed, no check. We called the center again and representative tells us that they don't know what the problem is but will escalate it and the escalation dept will contact us. No calls, emails, or mail. Another few business days pass and we call again, reference prior calls, are put on hold and left to the point our phone times out...more than once. We get back through again and insist on a supervisor. Initially told none available, we say we will wait. Finally, a supervisor named "Anthony" tells us that the check was mailed and they will need to research it. We ask that process, since we have been waiting weeks past the maximum time. He can't/won't provide anything, but says he will return a call within 24 hrs. He does not call. We attempt to call again, same issues with being put on hold, no supervisor available. They keep saying they will have someone call and we tell them, we have tried this multiple times with no contact.
We can't find any number in Memphis (call center folks are in the Philippines). After going through the full timeline and explaining that being told a supervisor will call us back is not acceptable. We are assured by "Mae" that someone will call within the hour. My husband is assured by another representative that someone will call us the next day. "Anthony" calls and tells us that he had an emergency and couldn't get back to us but he had "been looking into it." We asked why the previous check could not be confirm as not cashed and another sent to us. The check is over $1100.00. He could not offer anything other than they would continue to research it. All required processes, on our part have been followed. Approval for purchase and reimbursement was followed. We have been working for three weeks to resolve and they had plenty of time to confirm it was not cashed, cancel, and process another check.
We are approaching twice the time promised with no reimbursement or explanation. No other phone numbers, emails, or chats are available to contact the company with a complaint. The chat feature on the website is a "dead" link. We have found no method of contacting the company. We will be contacting BBB and the Department of Commerce (TN). We have paid our premiums for years and never had issues before. We have never been "Stuck" in the call center maze. This experience is enough that we will end our contract and will never recommend AHS to anyone, but will warn others of the experience. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

I have had an AHS program for over a year. In 10 months I have had 3 service calls for my air conditioner. They have sent 3 different companies to my home. None of the 3 have any information from the previous company's visit. Each time I was told that my unit has a leak and they 'charged the unit'---and I had to pay additional fee for refrigerant (that is not covered in the warranty).
In the last 2 visits they have replaced 80% of the refrigerant (5.5 lbs of a 6 lb 14 oz capacity). The last tech (May 29) told me AHS would not fix my unit and he would probably be back in July to 'charge' the unit. Since I have to pay a $75 service charge each time--plus refrigerant----there is no benefit to this warranty. All calls go to a call center and there is no way to complain on the AHS site. That is how I got here--the AHS site kicked me to 'reviews' on Consumer Affairs. I am going to file a complaint with our Attorney General (that covers all the agencies in my state).

I recently bought a house. It had no running water. After closing, my agent was told by Fannie Mae that water was on but that it was shut off at the main water valve in the crawl space. I went to the house and turned the main water valve - it kept turning and turning yet still no water. I figured the valve must be broke and stuck in off position. Since AHS is supposed to cover plumbing issues, I contacted them and they sent over Stillwell Plumbing. Their plumber reached the same conclusion. In fact, when he turned the valve handle, it broke off. He then called AHS to make sure that the valve was covered. He was on the phone with them for about 20 minutes. AHS then called my cell phone to inform me the valve was not covered because they said it was broke because of abuse. How is turning a water valve on 'abuse'????
The girl I talked with could not explain how turning a water valve is abuse. Toward the end of this double talking conversation, she claimed the plumber said, "I broke the valve." Yet when I asked her for his exact words, she said, "The valve is broke and needs to be fixed." I have to deal with AHS for several more issues. I will update this review after these issues. At this point, I think this company is a scam. The real estate agent who gave me the warranty said AHS replaced one of her appliances in the house she just bought. It may be that AHS will honor their agreement with agents but not with anyone else.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I will send you a private message in an effort to resolve your issue.

My experience with AHS has been terrible. I submitted a claim for my hot tub in December of 2018. It is now May 30, 2019 and still my hot tub has not been fixed. I have been given the run around by customer service and left on hold for hours multiple times. The issue has been escalated over and over again with no resolution. The contractor will not respond to AHS and they are not doing anything about it. They just keep telling me they are waiting on the contractor. This is terrible customer service and I will not be renewing my warranty with them.

We've been covered by American Home Shield for many years. The good news is that repairs get taken care of. The bad news, is that it may take a while. Currently, it's been eight days since our refrigerator/freezer has stopped cooling. The first contractor they sent didn't know how to fix it, so they just assigned it to another contractor, who can't come until next week. If it needs a part, that probably means another week. I'm sure they will eventually get it fixed, but 2-3 weeks without a refrigerator/freezer is a very long time for a family with kids!
After waiting long periods of time on hold, I tried to explain this to their representative, but I was told it's up to the customer to work out timings with the vendors. I tried to explain that my contract is with AHS, so I asked if they could try to get the vendor to expedite the repair. They refused, even though my contract is with AHS, my payments go to AHS, and AHS at first sent an unqualified vendor.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

We have had AHS for over 24 years and with 2 homes. At first they were fairly responsive. But for the last 5 years, it takes 30-45 mins on hold to get someone, then they usually don't speak English well. They say they'll get a contractor asap - and so far, that has been 3-7 days out. They promise to call back and do not. The contractors are unreliable, have cancelled on us or just not shown up. This last situation - it has been 3 days - they have cancelled on us and then not called back as promised. We will be on our 4th day waiting for this contractor to come tomorrow despite the fact that we pleaded with them - this is urgent because our house is on the market and it has been 90+ for days. This company service is worse than any place I have ever dealt with. I will be cancelling my service.

Returned from vacation on Memorial Day to find AC not working. Called and got a referral who contacted us the next day. We were informed it would be two weeks before anyone could come out. Unacceptable. Next provider on the list told us four days. Not great but we had no choice since the only have two AC providers in our area. That is out of a total of at least 13 AC servicers. With AHS you have to take what you get.

Stay as far away as you can. My A/C unit failed a week and a half ago. The technician they selected came out and said there were 2 problems and promptly left after pulling a number out of thin air. I say this because he had little to no explanation and didn't leave a written report to even reference. The unit is old and using Freon R-22 so I asked what it would take to replace the whole unit. Only his manager could give me an estimate and he couldn't come by until the next day. The next day the manager shows up, walks around my house for at most 2 minutes and at least has the courtesy to write down a number for a new unit. I bring up that there was no report from the original visit and he said he must have emailed it and I should check again. Checked again and never received anything. After asking again he sends me the report later that day and things are looking up.
In the midst of waiting for AHS to call me back and let me know what is covered and what isn't I had called for a second opinion. The second opinion of my choosing explains everything that they are checking and what exactly they are looking at each step of the way. They wrote a report with costs and gave me their recommendations! It has been a week and AHS still does not have the report from the first technician and thus cannot even tell me what they would cover from their selected contractor. The cost to repair you might wonder? AHS cannot say what they cover because they don't have the report. The cost to replace everything you may ask? AHS cannot say because they don't have the report. It is easily their favorite line.
My wife, 2-month-old baby and 2 dogs are trying to sleep but 85 degrees with all the fans going and all the windows open at 10 PM is not exactly comfortable. Needless to say I am in a rush to replace this A/C unit and have to pay the full cost simply because I cannot wait for AHS to "reach out during normal business hours to get the report". And for all those wondering, I have had the report for a week. I asked if they want me to personally send it as well as the second report from contractor number 2. They need to get it directly from the contractor before they will even look at it. If that doesn't show a complete lack of urgency and lack of empathy by both their selected contractor and their own employees, I don’t know what does.
I apologize for the delay Karl. I can understand your frustration with trying to work with us to resolve the a/c issue. In an effort to assist with a resolution, I just sent you an email. I look forward to assisting you.

My AC unit quit working April 30, 2019. I called AHS and made a claim over the phone. The company that received my request to look at my unit (Airetron). They did not call me to set up a time. I had to call them. He said he would be at my house around 4pm (May 1st) but never showed up. When I called him the next day, May 2, he did come out and look at my unit and stated the capacitor needed to be replaced. He replaced the capacitor then asked if he could service the unit because it only had 4 pounds of freon in it. We agreed to him servicing the unit. He added 6 pounds of freon to the unit. (Now, we did not realize at this point that unit holds only 7.5# of freon. We also did not know that we needed to make a separate claim to service the unit.
We also did not know that we were NOT to exchange money without the service being reported to AHS. These are all things the technician knows!!!). In addition to this, my husband and the technician's wife were just talking in general and she made the comment, "the more the customers **, I will ring the ** bill up!" (so very professional, right AHS???) Okay, so we paid the technician from Airetron $528.11 to service the unit and to add 6# of freon. The unit worked for ONE HOUR then QUIT! It does not even make the buzzing noise it once did. Absolutely Nothing! So we have paid the $125 call out fee plus $528.11 to still have NO AIR CONDITIONING!!!!. (We live in Southwest Louisiana with temps in the 90s... We have 2 small kids plus my elderly mother, just fyi!).
We called Airetron that evening to let Charles (the owner) know that the unit will not start! He said "no problem, we are eating dinner but will be back to your house shortly." Then Charles text my husband this "text me your address again please. I know you but can't place the unit." This was around 6pm. We did not hear back from Airetron (Charles) until 8:13 when he text my husband saying he got called to a job in Hackberry, La and would come back to our house when he was done (Hackberry is well over an hour away from our house). He text my husband again at 9:05 saying he was in Vinton, LA but would come by when he was done. He text again around 11pm saying was going to be another hour and asked if it was too late to come by.
We said, "Wait until tomorrow." He said he was getting a room in Lake Charles and we would be his first on the list. I had to call him the next day (May 3rd) around noon because we had not heard from him. He said he just woke up and gave me an estimated time of 2:57pm. He finally made it back out to our house (May 3rd) and said the unit needed to be replaced because the compressor was shot. He said he was going to get the insurance to replace the whole unit. He asked me to call AHS to get a new work order #. I did and then I asked him about refunding me my $528.11 because it obviously did not fix the unit. He said he would not refund my money because he cannot do anything with the freon he put in the unit.
He also told me over the phone that the more I complain, the longer it is going to take to fix my air! (Side note: the unit only holds 7.5# of freon. He said the unit had 4# in it and added 6# more for a total of 10# of freon for a unit that holds 7.5#... I wish I would have known that at the time. In addition to this, my husband said he did not even weigh the freon to know exactly how much he put in, or if he even put any freon in it...So something to think about AHS). I did get a call from AHS saying the compressor was not grounded and they had to replace the heat pump and add 7# of freon for an additional cost of $609.00... I informed AHS that he just added 6# to the unit when he changed the capacitor and I already paid him $528.11.
AHS had no record of him servicing the unit, imagine that, BUT I HAVE THE INVOICE! So I have called and told my story numerous times to each agent that I speak to. I was NEVER allowed to speak with a supervisor for 2 weeks, until MAY 14TH TO BE EXACT! I was placed on hold numerous times then hung up on numerous times. I finally spoke with a customer service supervisor on May 14th, and he sent an email to contractor relations. I was told by this supervisor that I would receive an email AND a call regarding this situation.
I also made it very clear that I will not conduct business with Airetron, and I want a second opinion from a different company. I also made a claim to get my $528.11 refunded. I have yet to receive an email or a phone call. I call weekly, most times at least 2 times per week and I get the same response from EVERY agent and every Escalations manager, which is, "I will send the email again. Contractor relations typical response time is within 24-48hrs!"
Today's date is May 29. I just got off the phone with AHS AGAIN, and Paula (agent) sent the email to contractor relations again. She also stated that it takes 14-21 business days to get a response (THIS IS NEW!). She assured me she would give me a call back to update me on the status (I was promised this by Michael, and escalations dept manager, just last week, and never heard back from him!) I still have no AC, am out over $650.00, and have not heard from AHS! I know AHS has my phone number because I confirm it EVERY TIME I CALL! I have been a faithful and satisfied customer of AHS for years. I am appalled about how this has been handled (or really, lack thereof).

So we have had this warranty company going on the second year with them. First time using them took 2 weeks to get our washer repaired. No big deal though. This was normal. So our air decided to go out on May 1st. Keep in mind we live in Florida. So I requested service from AHS. Quick response and technician was out within 48 hours. Diagnosed that we needed a new evaporator coil. I was told 3 days later it was ordered and should take 5-10 days to get here. Well May 21St came. No response from technician. Did not return voicemails left. Also called tech several times and his voicemail was full. So I called AHS. Let me tell you. I was on the phone for over an hour for them to tell me that they contacted the company and left a message to call me.
Well I tried to call the tech right after AHS rep did and their voicemail was full. So they lied just to get me off the phone. May 22nd let the day go by. Called tech several times. No answer and voicemail full. Sent texts as well. Called AHS rep again and was on the phone for an hour and half this time only to be told I have to pay the 280 fee for Freon before they will come to fix the Air. So I advised rep I will pay now if they are ready tech then said no. I have to pay the AC company. Well I asked, "How can I do that if they won’t call me." They advised me they had sent an email to the company to contact since when they tried no one answered and voicemail was full. So fast forward to May 24th still no response from A/C company.
So I call AHS for the third straight day. On the phone for almost 2 hours after I requested to speak to a supervisor as I no longer trusted the Reps as they had lied to me several times. After being on hold for better part of an hour and a half they came on and said a supervisor was extremely busy handling other calls and would call me back that night. No call from them so May 25th I call around 10 am and after going through everything again and 45 minute Rep stated they will call A/C company to contact me. So same story. They come back 20 minutes later and say they have contacted them and the company will call me.
I request to speak to a supervisor again. And on hold for over an hour. Finally they transfer me to the executive resolution team. Which I’m hold for another 30 minutes. Finally someone answers. Get told they have ordered the part and waiting for it to come in. Rep stated she will follow up with me to make A/C company reaches out. So of course Memorial Day was on Monday and as a veteran myself I was honoring my fallen brothers and sisters. Then on Tuesday A/c company sends a text and said part is still order waiting for it to come in. So I called AHS again as the rep from the executive resolution team never called back to check. So on the phone and ask to speak to a supervisor again and the rep stated, "What can I help you with?"
I advised rep I have called for 3 days straight and there is nothing in notes or my file about anything and Rep stated no they have nothing in their system of me calling. So now I’m beyond upset. Ask to speak to a supervisor once again. On hold for almost an hour. Finally supervisor answers and calls A/c company to find out about order 15 minutes later. Rep comes back and states that the part ordered is on back order and do not know when it will come in. Keep in mind we now have not had air for 3 weeks. By this time my wife has posted on Facebook and some reached out to me to step in and they didn’t call. They sent an email. They said there is nothing they can do because the part is under warranty and since this is the case they cannot do anything.
I asked how they can just let someone sit here after paying the monthly fee for a service to be told, "Sorry there is nothing we can do." So I asked, "Is there any time frame?" and they said no as long as it takes for the company to send the part. I then asked what else they can do and they stated they can give me 380.00 for the labor to put in the part. Since it was under warranty they do not have to pay for the part. This is a horrible injustice to me and my family and discrimination towards veterans because they do not to spend the money to fix the issue.

I had my air conditioner repaired last summer and it is broken again. I call for a tuneup thinking it would be fixed today. The technician said that the Freon was low and he had to submit a report and someone would call me. He couldn’t repair the air conditioner today. I placed a follow up call to ensure that the report was filed and that a repair person would be scheduled soon. The customer service representative said that the report had not been submitted. I waited several hours and called back for a status update. I was told again that the report was not submitted and that it would have to be submitted for authorization.
I requested to speak to a supervisor and was told that she would tell me the same thing. I insisted on speaking with the supervisor on duty. I was placed on hold and eventually told that the supervisor would call me back. I haven’t received a call back yet. I have already paid for the services and the air conditioner should definitely be under warranty since it hasn’t been a year since the original repair. My indoor thermostat reading is 85 degrees on the main level. It’s too hot to be without air especially since I have paid for services. It’s even more disappointing to receive poor customer service. I thought the washer was leaking, and it turned out to be a drain back-up. So, American Home Shield sent out City Plumbing. And the tech discovered, apparently, that it was plumbed sort of weirdly. He said that the drain should not be connected to the laundry tray, but for whatever reason, they were and they were backing each other up. And it didn’t go on to the floor again, but it went up into the laundry sink. Then he cleared another drain, and he was persistent. It wasn’t responding like he thought it should, and he stayed with it. He did a great job. He was really professional but friendly and conversant and was paying very much attention to what he was doing. And when he left, I was left without a problem at all, so it’s great.

My experience with American Home Shield has not been good. It is almost to the point that I see no need in having the insurance. Their reps were very nice. But they had one of the headset phones and it was difficult for me to understand what they were saying, so that was not pleasant because the rep kept repeating. Her microphone was too close to her mouth. My husband also tried talking to her and he had the same problem. But she was very nice. She told me who would be calling for the service.
Axis was the repair company and they said that it was the control panel. They ordered one and put it in. He put it on sensor cook, and it heated a cup of water. I assumed that it was finished and repaired. When I tried to cook on it later on, it still would not work with direct microwave. I called American Home Shield and then they called Axis. When I called Axis, they said that if the electric panel did not work, then it couldn't be fixed. So I told them that they need to call the insurance people and tell them that. I didn’t hear and I didn’t hear and I didn’t hear, so I placed another call to American Home Shield. The rep said that she would call Axis and I told her to keep me on the line, which she did. But Axis did not answer. The rep told me that she would have to calle me back.
I waited and then I called Axis again. They told me that they have ordered a panel. I told them that they just put in the panel, but they said it was another panel. When it came in, they scheduled a time and it was another half day out of my life. The tech put it in, and the same thing happened. He said he didn't know what was wrong with it and then he started to leave. I asked him to leave a paper copy that he was here and that it did not work. And with that, he just left. The only proof that I had that he was here was the date on my calendar.
I called American Home Shield again, and they tried to get Axis on the line again. They got an answering machine, and they told they would call me back. Then Axis called my husband yesterday, and they said that they were going to send a supervisor out, and they would be here today between 12:00 and 5:00, another half-day out of my day. So, that’s where we are at this point.
This has been going on since April. If I press one minute or two minutes or five minutes, direct power, it does not cook or heat. Adding a minute does not work. The only thing that works is the sensor part of the microwave where you press a button and, across the screen, it asks you what you want to cook. It is ridiculous. American Home Shield should replace it. I have had this policy for several years, and this is, by far, the worst experience that we have ever had.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Wanda. In an effort to aid with unresolved issues, I just sent you an email. I look forward to assisting you.

One night, my husband and I were sitting here just watching TV and we thought that it was really warm. So, I went and checked the temperature to see what it was on. It was set on 74, and it was registering 77 or 78. We filed a claim with American Home Shield for our AC. When the contractor called, he gave us an estimate on when he was gonna be out. In fact, he was gonna come one day, and it was raining. So, he changed it to a day or two after that. He was great. He was absolutely hysterical. He had a great sense of humor and a great presence about him. He wasn’t afraid. We have four huge dogs. They’re each one over 90 pounds, and we keep them penned off with baby gates when anybody comes here. And a lot of people are afraid to even walk anywhere near them, but not him. He was reaching over the gate, petting them, and talking to them. He has a great personality.
Our AC has been great since then. We were very fortunate that it wasn’t something major. We were hoping the most it might be would be the Freon. We were really afraid that it might need a whole new unit. But it didn’t. It’s been an excellent experience. We’ve always recommended American Home Shield. We get really prompt and fast service out of them. With the exception of one, everybody they’ve ever sent out here was very thorough and got the issue taken care of right away.
