There was a condensation pump in the AC unit that went bad. I submitted a claim with AHS, they sent out Myers Comfort Specialist, and the condensation pump was replaced. Myers has been fairly good. There wasn't much to the problem but we've had them before and usually, they'd call as soon as they could set up their appointment. The last time we had an air conditioner issue, they had problems because of the heat wave we had but they got here as quickly as they could. I have AHS for nine years now and so far, it's been very easy to submit claims with them. You call and tell them what your problem is, then they’ll say somebody will call you from a company. Usually that afternoon or the next morning, you get a call from that company and they set up a time to come out. All in all, we’ve been pleased with the service from AHS and I'd tell my friends to get their warranty.

We have paid for this service for several years, we had four claims. All were handled poorly!! Everything is always a major hassle so many hoops to jump through. It takes an act of Congress to get satisfactory resolution. You pay premium for the cheapest replacements they can find. Oh and don’t expect them to fix you air conditioning without a $680.00 minimum charge and that is not a replacement. We had high expectations and several good recommendations but believe me this was a lot of wasted money and so much stress and anxiety to deal with if you need a repair that you would be better off to take that monthly payment and save it and fix things yourself as we will do from this point forward.

They people on the phone are total liars, say what they think you want to hear!! When I canceled they even sent a letter saying no refund for me and no extra charge for them as I canceled 9 days after last payment and then sent me a email saying my account was going to be turned over to collections for a late payment. When I called she said it was an admin fee. Total rip off even though they sent us a letter saying NO BALANCE!! Glad to be done!!! Buyer beware.

I always submit my claims with AHS online. The process is simple and easy. But if there’s something wrong, I usually call and I like that they're available 24/7. Their customer service reps are always very friendly and they try to do what they can on their end to fulfill the services. The contractors that they send out have been good and I don't have any complaints. I don't like to have to call back because something didn't work or there was a misreading, but in the end, that’s my own personal frustrations.

Recently, I had a plumbing issue and AHS sent out Immediate Response Plumbing & Rooter Service. They put in a valve then left. After that, the guy from ASAP came out to do the toilet. He was very friendly, very helpful, and answered all my questions. He also did really well in explaining things and questions. He said that the water and the pressure wasn't accurate and that the valve that Immediate Response put in may not be working because the pressure was still high. So, he asked me to contact either American Home Shield or Immediate Response. I contacted Immediate Response and they came out to check it with multiple gauges. But according to them, it was fine. Also, the tech from ASAP is gonna have to come back and do the toilet because it’s not working well.

All in all, AHS has been good and it's worth it to have that coverage. I have them for about two years now and they're easy to get a hold of. I also appreciate that they’ll send someone out the second time if an appliance is still not working properly. It’s just sometimes, it’s frustrating having to get a hold and contact a rep if something’s not right. But when I call AHS for a problem, it pretty much gets solved.

Our toilets were not draining. They were clogged and it was a nightmare getting the repair guy out. AHS wanted to send him at 10:00 in the morning, I couldn't, I work. And they said, "Okay, well then, he can't get there for two weeks." I said that's not gonna work either because all three toilets weren't flushing. So I spoke to a manager and after about an hour, they said, "Okay, yeah, he'll be there today at 3:00." And I'm like, "Perfect." And then he was, then the toilets got fixed and everything was fine. When the repair guy came in, he just had to put a little snake down. It was very minimal but all three toilets were fixed. Everything was fine. We recommend AHS. I've used them before and it was wonderful.

The guy from TLC Appliance Repair did a very good job, and he was very quick and on time. He knew exactly where to go and what to look for. The dishwasher stopped working, and I wasn’t sure what the problem was. He found that there was a fuse inside that goes out on a regular basis on that particular model, and he requested a new one for that. Submitting claims through American Home Shield has been very easy. I used First American Home Warranty before and I found that it took forever to get stuff done with them. American Home Shield is very easy to use, very prompt, and it is a good service.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since 1999 and I haven't had any bad experience with their contractors. At first, I didn’t really care for the fact that maybe somebody different would come out each time. But now, for the most part, every time I’ve called, it’s always been pretty much the same people for whatever purpose. For instance, the appliance company has been the same appliance company for the past 3 or 4 calls. Recently, I’ve had a couple of different problems with the microwave. It wasn’t heating so we had A1 Appliance Repair come back out. They replaced the base plate and it was still not quite perfect. Then, it just stopped heating again and they came out and fixed it so far. My daughter’s looking to buy a home right now. I told her for sure, she’s gonna get a home warranty. I have never been with another company to be able to really know, but I’m certainly impressed with American Home Shield's service.

American Home Shield sent out a plumbing company for the leak under my mobile home. The tech's name was Dennis and he was here on a Friday for an hour in the afternoon and then he came back Monday for an hour again. He said that everything needed to be replaced to get under there. He said it was gonna cost about $15,000. I told him that I don't have that kind of money and I wasn’t gonna be able to afford it. He just shrugged his shoulders and told me that he didn’t know what to tell me to do. But he asked me if I had a credit card and he wrote my numbers down and he left. Then he cashed in on my credit card for $1,980 for two trips.

My neighbor came over in the evening and asked what was going on, and I told him about it. I've already been carrying in water for about three or four days. So the very next day, he went under my mobile home and he fixed it. He told me that the tech could have done the very same thing. I have all kinds of papers with Dennis' name on it and it's about 10 or 15 other complaints against him. I never would have let him in my door had I known that.

When the hot water heater gave out, American Home Shield sent out AM PM. The plumber was nice and he explained everything. He was polite as he could possibly be. The hot water heater had to be taken out, and a new one was put in. The plumber said that the bill was about $500 but if we got rid of the old tank, they would take $50 off of it. So we got the bill down to around $400. I started to write a check but the plumber told me that they wouldn't take a check. They would take cash or credit card. I told him I didn't have much cash then but I could over to the bank real quick. But he had other calls to make.

I was on the edge with using my credit card due to my experience with the previous plumber. The bank told me to not use the credit card, but I still used it. I talked to Trish from the plumbing company several times and explained that we don't know if the credit card payment will go through because the bank told me they might put a hold on it less than a month ago. But I told them that if it didn't work, then I would go to the bank and get some money. And I was surprised that the card payment went through. But then I got this overdraft yesterday.

Tony, who I consider as my second son, submits the claim to American Home Shield for me. I do not have a computer, but he has one. He had called in for me numerous times. Overall, I'm not dissatisfied with American Home Shield. But they need to let me know the cost when a claim is covered and the charges that I am responsible for. They should explain any other charges beyond the $75 that I pay monthly. For the water tank, Tony and my son called American Home Shield to double-check and make sure that we were doing what we were supposed to do.

I had an issue with my stove, refrigerator, and washing machine. The stove was blowing the circuit when it went on to convection. The refrigerator was icing out, the freezer was icing over and leaking when it went into defrost mode. The washing machine was leaking and was also out of balance. It was creating a lot of noise when it went into a spin cycle. American Home Shield let me do it all in one claim. I did it online and the website was incredibly easy to navigate.

The original contractor was able to help with the washing machine. They immediately decided to give us the evaluation of value for the washer. They gave us the reimbursement on that because they said it wasn’t worth fixing. But I'm still having an issue with the stove. While the repairman was here, he used the convection and it seemed to work. I used it last night and it was still blowing the circuit. So I resubmitted another follow-up on it.

For the refrigerator, American Home Shield sent a different repair company out because the company that originally came out didn't fix Vikings. But the second company they sent me were no-shows on two of the appointments. When the third company came out, they fixed it immediately. Overall, everything was pretty much resolved in a month or so. I was very pleasantly surprised at how easy American Home Shield was to use.

American Home Shield took care of us and never slipped on any occasion. When I have claims, I do everything online through their app or the web. I prefer that because calling takes forever. Unfortunately, American Home Shield had some bad companies in the past. We have three AC units for the house and two of them kept going in and out all the time. I was catching the contractors doing shoddy work. It looked like they were trying purposely to do something so they can come back out again so it’s gonna be triple cost. I told American Home Shield not to even try sending them back out to us again.

But there was always communication with American Home Shield and they would always resolve it. They always were on top of it, which was nice. It was not like they ever backed out on anything for us. There was even a point in time when we actually had to put a brand new system in. Then the recent contractor we got, Rapp's Heating, has probably been one of our best ones. In that claim, the AC wasn’t cooling all the time. It started getting hot and it took the technician a little while to get out there. But the guy they always send out is a decent guy. He figures out the problems real quickly.

American Home Shield has been great. I haven't had any problems, but I'm kinda stuck in between diagnosis right now. There was some water leaking under the carpet in my basement. My brother looked at where the air conditioning is and said that it was leaking water. So I called JG Services and they came out. They determined that the condensate pans had rusted through on the bottom, and it needed to be replaced. But they didn’t have a part, and I had to pay $40 for them to ship the part. The tech came back for his second visit, but the water was still leaking. I asked him about it and he said he thought it was something in the condensate pan. So, he put in the new condensate pans, left, and about two weeks later, there was more water. I called them back, they came for the third time, and they pretty much said that they believe that the drain in the back of the air conditioner was clogged. So, I needed a plumber.

I went back to American Home Shield and they sent out Grade A Plumbing. They took a look at the air conditioner which was running at the time, and they declared it as the air conditioner was shot. I needed a new air conditioner. The tech didn’t want anything to do with the situation. He just opened my closets and then left. That was concerning for me. At that point, I didn’t know who to call. They were going back and forth. There was a little bit of a communication gap there. I got on the phone with American Home Shield and talked to Jo. She was very helpful and she got both of them on the phone separately. Then she came back and explained to me what was going on. I found out through American Home Shield that they believe it is an underground pipe, and they wouldn’t be responsible for that.

At this point, it’s been very confusing. I did call an outside plumber, and they are supposed to call me this week when they’re in the area, and I’m going to meet them. It's very frustrating, because the water is coming in my basement. I wished that when they were checking out my air conditioner in the very first time, that they would’ve been able to tell the problem, and it wouldn’t have went on another three weeks. JG Services did a great job. But when I said that there was water collecting under the carpet and we passed over it, they could’ve looked into it a little bit more at that point.

But overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. I’ve had very good experiences. They fixed my air conditioner. They were timely. When I went on American Home Shield and requested my air conditioner to be fixed the very first time, I had an appointment in 10 minutes. And it's been a very, very good process with the plumber. I don’t have to worry about who I’m calling. I just go in there, and within 10 minutes, I know who’s coming. That’s been great. I’ve been very, very happy with that.

But I was supposed to hear from them within 24 hours, and I’ve never heard from anybody. I have had Pennington out here, and it was through the home warranty, and I liked them. And AHS assigned somebody else. I shot them off an email saying that I know that they work with Pennington, and I had Pennington out here, and I really like Pennington, and I’d prefer to work with them. It was a better situation with American Home Shield than I have had before and that I am having right now with another issue.

I am having a problem with a plumber that they sent for a toilet issue. The plumber had been here four times and had not repaired the toilets in my estimation satisfactorily. The toilet does not flush completely and adequately every time. I don’t feel that I need to tell my guests when they use my bathroom that they have to be very specific on how they flush the toilet in order for that toilet to clear. It is not a new toilet and this has never happened before. When he left, he said that he couldn’t figure out why the toilet was still doing it, which was the problem. He said that he didn’t know whether AHS would send somebody else or authorize a replacement for the toilet. I have another one coming out tomorrow for a second opinion. So, evidently, AHS decided to throw good money after bad and send another plumber.

My AC has not been repaired for the past year and has never worked despite paying the service charge. It blows hot air. AHS assured me they would resolve this issue with the repair vendor but they have not followed up despite numerous phone calls. Many companies provide an option for a call back when they are too busy to accept a call. AHS could dramatically improve service by doing so. I did finally get to talk to someone at AHS last week and I was told that the repair issue had been closed out by another agent. Called American Home Shield for an appointment to service my air conditioning system. I had to call 5 times to get any response from a live person. Three calls resulted in a disconnection after holding for over an hour. The fourth call produced a recording that said they were too busy to take calls and I needed to call back. The fifth call was successful in getting a service provider assigned, after another hour hold.

The service provider assigned, Qualified Service Systems, allowed a 4 hour window to get to the house and they showed-up 2 hours AFTER their window allowed, forcing me to take the entire day off work. The tech. walked in, claimed he would "clear the drain line" and left in literally 5 minutes, saying if the leak was not fixed, call the office. The leak was not fixed, so I called the office and they responded that "the unit was inaccessible" but it was "repaired". Of course, the unit was NOT "inaccessible". They told me to call American Home Shield once again for another service provider if I wasn't happy.

After three more calls to American Home Shield, another service provider was assigned AFTER I paid an ADDITIONAL $100 service call fee...for the SAME issue. They gave me a "window" of EIGHT HOURS, requiring another full day off work. The technician came in and said he couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from and so he couldn't repair it. American Home Shield offered no resolution.

I called a local a/c company at my full expense, they came within a couple of hours and repaired the unit. So seven phone calls, two days off work and $200 in service fees (PLUS the regular annual premium I paid of $900), resulted in no repair by American Home Shield. One call, two hours and $150 to a local a/c company, and the unit was fixed. The American Home Shield service contract was FAR WORSE than useless.

In Alabama if you have an AC unit go out. You cannot wait 2-4 days for a warranty company to send someone out to look at your unit.... Anyway - the salesman that called to follow up on the quote stated to me 'you're not very smart' if you'd rather pay a little more on the back end in order to get a contractor right away that more coverage if you wait a few days. A salesman telling me I'm not very smart is a SURE way to NOT get my business...

Filing the service is simple and easy to do either by phone or online. However, trying to contact AHS after a service call or to ask why their service was denied payment is a completely disaster. Call the 800 number and there is not an option to request explanation of denial. Must go through billing. The foreign call center employees do not know what to do or say and only repeat your questions and continuously place you on hold while they “ask a manager”. I was hung up on twice and redirect 4 times. After my 5th call the agent sent me to a more informed woman who said she was talking to the ASL group who were informing her that the repair is not covered. Even though not listed in exclusions it was also not listed in covered items as well and therefore they can exclude it from coverage.

Tip for customers. Ask the contractor who comes to your repair to get prior approval from AHS for the repair. Make them call AHS to confirm. You have already spent the 100 dollars to get them there. They can take a few minutes to confirm repair. If not covered you now know and can get their estimate they will charge you. The service visit charge will be covered by AHS.

We never had the need to use the warranty and decided to cancel our contract. I called to make our final payment and asked them to cancel the policy. They gladly took our payment but neglected to cancel our contract. Then emails started coming stating that our contract wasn’t paid up to date. I replied back that I had called to cancel the policy and would not be paying anything further. Then they send a letter telling us that they were cancelling our contract due to non-payment. Today, I got a letter from a debt collection firm stating that they sent our account to collections. Assuming they record their calls they have proof that I cancelled my contract but are taking extraordinary measures to make this a difficult situation. Beware if you want to get out of your contract.

My issues with American Home Shield are linked to the customer service experience within the payment department. I was charged for 2 service visits that never took place, one in February for a dryer and one in April for an A/C tune up that never happened. I had to do the research and realize I was billed for these two visits that never took place.

I spoke to a helpful employee who began the refund process for the charges, and within a few days I received one service fee refunded. So far, I have spent over 6 hours holding on the phone and getting the run around about the reversal of the charges. I was given an email address two days ago where I sent a detailed email, and proof the second charge was not reversed and I am yet to hear a response. The repairs to my home have taken a long time to schedule, and I have waited for a repairman twice that never showed up. If I do not receive my refund I am going to cancel my service because of the poor customer service.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for years and we’ve complained about companies that represented them in the past. However, Air Command, the company that came for the AC unit that was putting out fumes and not cooling, is the best company that we’ve ever had come out. They were qualified. They do good work. Their people are presentable so it was just a total 100%. In fact, we’ve never had any one to do that good of a job on our air conditioner. They replaced our thermostat and did a wonderful job for me. I was totally satisfied. This company is a larger company than most companies that service for American Home Shield. Therefore, they're better equipped and have more experienced people. In the Phoenix area, especially where I live, American Home Shield needs more contractors like Air Command.

When Delta came, the claim was on the fridge, on the washing machine and on the dishwasher. The guy fixed the dishwasher and it was fine. For the fridge, I told the technician that I was not getting any water from it. He said the fridge was not closing. There was moist and it was freezing the water in the fridge. I asked him what could we do and he told me he'd go back to the company and he'd ask them. He came back and brought the strips. Water was still not coming and he said the electronic was not good. He was gonna go back and bring a new electronic. So he went back, brought the electronic, but it was not the same one as he brought it.

Then, American Home Shield sent me another company. The young man came, played with the fridge and told me the problem was from the pipes. He told me he was gonna write a note to American Home Shield for them to send me a plumber. I called American Home Shield and told them I had so many people coming in. The whole day yesterday, I was on the phone trying to explain to the lady what is wrong. At the same time, I had put another claim on my bathroom. The toilet wasn't flushing right and water was going through. Then, in my guest bathroom, the shower was dripping. Up To Code came and the technician said he was gonna go and try if he could find me pieces for it. For my guest bathroom, he said he was gonna try to find a piece of rubber for it. But I am still waiting.

My washing machine was leaking water and the clothes were not drying. The same guy from Delta wrote a note saying I needed the bearings to be changed. That will let the cycle go well and then the clothes will dry. He said he could not change them because he needed two people to help him. I asked him if he could talk to American Home Shield and see if they would allow two people to help. This guy disappeared then I got AG Appliances. The guy from AG Appliances said he would change the bearings and it would be fine.

I called AG after 2-3 days and asked when were they coming to fix. They said they closed my case. They could not deal with those things. American Home Shield doesn't pay them to do those things. I called American Home Shield back and the lady said she was gonna let AG Appliances come again. I asked if they were sending the same guy or maybe another guy who would know better and she said they were sending the same guy. So the guy came and he said it's the hose and bearing. I said, "Okay sir, would you please write them down for me?" He said he was not writing anything down for me. He also said if I didn't sign, they will not gonna come to my home anymore. I said, "Sir, the first time I signed for you, you didn't write anything on it." He said, "Well, we have to go back to my business and then they will decide what I should write." I told him I wanted know what I was signing, and I was not signing.

I have been with American Home Shield for over 27 years. My claims are all legitimate and I didn't do much claims. I had 4 of my neighbors who signed up with American Home Shield because of me. I don't market, but my marketing for American Home Shield is that you have peace of mind because you know who's coming into your home. You don't have to call somebody that you don't know. With American Home Shield, whoever comes in, I feel safe. The price goes up and I never complain. They're giving me a peace of mind. I'm a woman alone and I don't have anyone to to help me out. However, I am totally dissatisfied. So far, I don't know what is happening anymore.

I would recommend American Home Shield. Everybody that I talked to there has been nice. They help me out and they are the best. They were so positive and assured me that they would have someone on it, and they had. When they said they were gonna do something, they did it right quickly. They had people to call me within 24 hours. There is nothing wrong that American Home Shield is doing, it’s just the people that they hire out. Some of them are not professional and they can’t get the work done.

I’ve had Universal Plumbing out 3 times for my hot water heater and it’s still not getting hot. They’re just messing it up worse than it was. They used big pipes, tried to take the top off and do this extra stuff, and my hot water heater actually looks bad. They're coming back out again tomorrow to try to get me some hot water. They bought parts the people have been trying everything and it’s not working. I might need another hot water heater. A contractor came out for the AC unit and they said it was fine. So, whatever they’ve been saying, I just go along with it. American Home Shield keeps having people to come out. It’s getting cold but it’s just not getting cold as it’s supposed to. It’s summertime now I don’t know if that’s why it’s really getting hot.

Our air conditioner failed and we went round and round with American Home Shield on the replacement. It was almost $6,000 and they said that they would cover that up to 1,500, and then they would not. When we talked to them, they said that any previous record of us talking to them wasn’t there. So, we asked them for the cash limit. They’ve done every kind of consumer trick to not take care of us. They put me on hold for 55 minutes one time, saying that they were talking to the repairman. I got on another line and called the repairman and asked if AHS was trying to call him and he said no. I called them back on a different line and told them that I have been on hold for 55 minutes, that I was talking to the repairman right then and they told me that they were trying to get a hold of him.

Instantly, the lady came on the line and told me that she had to deny the claim because the lines were underground and it couldn’t be replaced in that spot. They said that if we put them through the attic, that was considered an alteration. I said that it was exactly the same stuff and just going in a different direction. It would be so expensive to go underground that it precludes doing that. They said that because of that they would deny the claim altogether. I asked if they could give me cash-in-lieu and I asked that three different times. They said they would apply for that but they never called me back. I called them again and said that I wanted cash-in-lieu because the repair will be more than 1,500. They said that I haven't filed for it. I told them it was my second time and to file it for me. She said she would do that but she never called me back.

I called them again last week and I said I wanna do the cash-in-lieu. They called me back today, a week after that and she said that it hasn’t been filed. I’ve got to let it be filed and wait 48 hours. I said that it was my third time to file, so I would wait another 48 hours. Since May 25th, I've been without AC. I got an upper respiratory infection, I’m 67 years old and my blood pressure, in calling and arguing with them, got up to a point when I went to the doctor and they said that they needed to send me to the emergency room because my blood pressure was 190 over 98. I was about to have a stroke. I said that it was 100 degrees in my house and now I've got a upper respiratory infection from trying to live in this house without any AC in the whole house except for my bedroom. I can’t clean the house in a 100-degree weather.

AHS called today and said they would only give me $350 when they’ve got a 1,500 cash-in-lieu. I had to replace the whole air and if the repairman was able to do the line, he would have found that the condenser and the unit were bad. The rep said that their guy didn’t diagnose that. I said that I didn’t choose to replace it. I was gonna die without it and I could show them the doctor’s record where I went and where they recorded my blood pressure. They put me on hold, gave five different excuses and told me several different reasons why it was denied. I asked why they were giving me 350. The copper line itself would cost that much and the lines, not counting the Freon, was over $1,000. She said it was their wholesale amount and what they would pay the repairman. I said that I couldn’t buy it wholesale. They have to replace what I have to pay retail up to $1,500 because I spent $5,500.

I had the air man talk to their person on the phone when he was here. These were licensed air conditioning people. They couldn’t lie and say that my compressor and AC were out, and they just wanted AHS to pay for a new unit. He put in my line through the attic and discovered that both the condenser and the compressor had to be replaced. The rep said they couldn’t accept his opinion.

On the very first trip, their guy didn’t have the pressure testing equipment with them. So, they made a trip to just look at it. Then they made another trip with the pressure testing equipment and found that it was bad. Then they made another trip to try and fix it. When the repairman discovered that, he said that I had a bad leak under the house, but he could put Freon in and I would be able to run it for a while. I said I didn’t wanna pay $500 worth of Freon that I know was gonna flow straight out. That Freon wouldn’t have lasted a day and I was surprised that he would suggest that. That would’ve been a waste and I said that I didn’t wanna put Freon in it till it was fixed.

I did not accept the 350 and I told the rep that it wouldn’t even pay for the copper wires. I told her that I'll file a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau. Then, when I looked up how their standing was, they got over 10,000 complaints that have been filed with the BBB. I’m very dissatisfied because they lied on the phone and then, their technician wanted to put refrigerant in when everything was broken.

When I told them I wanted the technician to come out again, they gave me an appointment that was 10 days forward. They said that they couldn’t get him again until the 4th, which I knew was bogus because I’d already been through being on hold while they reached him and they weren’t even trying to reach him. Catty little tricks like that are not appreciated. Also, every time they talked to me, they would go through 10 minutes of verifying everybody and how they were related instead of addressing the problem. AHS have not lived up to what their warranty said it would do.

I’ve had no trouble submitting claims to American Home Shield. I usually do it by phone. There was one time I couldn’t get through very well. I needed something done sooner. And I don’t think they could get providers as easy out here in Victoria, Texas. But the last time someone came, it was for the air-conditioning. And they came straight out here and took care of it.

When our oven went out, the contractors sent by AHS said we had to have a new oven, and AHS could not provide us with that particular oven. So they gave us an allowance. They gave us the choice of having a lesser oven or just an amount of money that they would give us. We took the money and hired our own provider. So that was easy. The next time, there was a plumbing problem and we were kind of in a hurry to get it fixed because we had guests coming in. And they were not able to provide anybody in the length of time that we needed it. So I just skipped them. It wasn’t a great big deal.

The third thing we’ve used them for is, recently, when we had an air-conditioning unit go out, and they were having trouble getting a provider. But what happened the first time, they lost the claim. And I called back 48 hours later, and they didn’t even have any record of the claim even though I had the claim number. They admitted they made a mistake, and then they got somebody out here the next day. American Home Shield is a good policy. I’m really pleased with it. I paid them for the premiums for the next three years by my savings. I paid $50 a month, and I think I’ve saved around $2,000. I would definitely get it again.

The AC unit was not cooling. I did my claim online and the process was great. There was no waiting on hold and it was easy to use. I usually assume that it needed Freon, but in the end, it did not need any Freon. The technician cleaned off the condenser coils and spent a good amount of time doing that, and the unit has been working fine ever since. He properly diagnosed it and did a great job.

After the fact, I realized that the R22 is going away so I called American Home Shield to try to find out what their plan is for that. The person I talked to about that on the phone could not give me any information other than that they would pay $10 of the Freon cost. So, I posted a review on Google, and the next thing I know, I got a totally complete answer about what their plans are and how to help me replace the Freon part of my unit when the time comes. Their phone support was not so good, but their online support for anybody who writes a review on Google was outstanding because they gave me an answer.

It’s easy to submit a request, but getting serviced, help out here is not easy. I’m probably not gonna renew with them. I’m gonna look into a different service. They need to be much more prompt with the folks that they use. The time that I submit the claim until somebody comes out to my home to look at the issue is a little bit long. It’s probably 3 days minimum.

For instance, I have a call-in right now. I had a plumber come out. I live in the Palm Springs area but the plumber that gets sent out is about an hour away. They don’t service this area except for maybe 3 days a week. The first guy that they scheduled ended up calling in sick. That was about a 3-day wait just to get him. The next one got rescheduled for about 3 days later so I went a whole week without having anybody here. And now, the guy came. He looked at the faucet and left 'cause they needed to order a part. It’s been at least a week and we haven't heard anything.

Someone should get in touch with me soon. But the problem I had was how long it took them to get in touch with me. I called back to try to change and see if I could get another company to come out, but they told me the order was in. In getting someone else, they would probably have to reprocess again.

It took me almost a week to finally get my air conditioner looked at. I called on a Saturday, the day before Memorial Day. It took three days for someone to get in touch with me to finally say they could schedule me. Once they finally scheduled me, they kept sending me correspondences letting me know when the date was and when the people would be out. About a day before the technicians came, I was sent me the names of the guys who were coming.

The technicians were very professional. They came in, put booties on their shoes, and went downstairs. They asked me about the specific problem I was having. I told them my unit didn’t come on when we turned it on but I heard it click. They immediately went outside to check the unit first. After which they came back inside. They wanted to turn it on. Once that was done, they assessed that the air conditioner had a leak in it. They told me to call for the Freon. They then put Freon in it and from there, the unit was working. After about 15 minutes in, they continued to clean the coils so they asked if they could use the water hose. They then gave me an update about how old my unit is and the possibility of getting a new one. Things went very well. I'm satisfied.

They said they'd given their review to the approvals department, so I called customer service and after a lengthy wait was told that the decision was in the approvals process and there was a 48 hour turnaround.

A few days later, I called back again because I'd heard nothing. They put me on hold, told me they didn't have an answer, and promised someone would call me back. This happened for four more days in a row. The last time I insisted to be put through to a manager, and was put on hold for two hours. I tallied it up and the total I spent on hold with customer service that week and the next was ten hours. They bluntly lied to me many many times over, SWEARING someone would call me back each subsequent representative I spoke to.

Eventually, the only way I got in touch with someone was by dragging them on Twitter, again over the course of multiple days. It is completely pathetic. I've had three items in for service now and they've been just as useless each time. We bought our home 21 years ago, and it came with a 1 year AHS home warranty. After the first year we decided to keep it in force. The next summer on a 109 degree Sunday afternoon the AC fails. AHS would not send anyone out as it was not an "emergency". Excuse me, no AC on a 109 degree Sunday in Tucson Arizona IS an emergency. I called a private AC contractor who came out and fixed the issue, and submitted the bill to AHS. After going back and forth with AHS for a few weeks, they finally decided to pay for the repair if I signed up for 1 more year of coverage. This sounded reasonable, and I did this. Fast forward 20 years. Now the same AC unit is on its last legs and fails again. The AC technicians they send out say "This unit is way beyond its expected life, and you need a new one. If you repair it one more time, the refrigerant it uses will be banned in the US starting next year (2020), and you'll be SOL when it happens again".

The least expensive AC unit available for a home our size was $7,400. AHS would not pay for the new unit, despite our being customers for 20 years. Their only offer was to pay for the refrigerant ($330) that the technicians would have used to fill it up one last time. We had to take out a loan to replace the AC unit out of own pockets. To be fair, their coverage of small to medium priced repairs has been generally adequate over the years (why they got 2 stars instead of 1), but a $330 offer on a $7,400 bill isn't even in the ballpark of being adequate. We had no choice but to replace a very old unit that would not have been repairable after this year. We are obviously very disappointed, have dropped them, and cannot recommend AHS anymore.

American Home Shield takes hours to call or contact. There is no email contact. There is no main office phone for complaints or to "escalate concerns" and no office address listed. The contact us circles back to same number. The "warranty" contract makes every effort to repair even 20 year old items and force those covered to deal with the lowest rated and many times the least competent of companies. Frustrations abound. Imagine repair of a 15 year old microwave rather than replacement. Imagine repair, and repair and repair of a 20 year old HVAC system and then working thru 3 contractors over 4 weeks during the winter with no furnace working. When replacement is finally authorized the company wants to charge for "code" upgrades.

When asked to escalate to a supervisor or have someone follow up from legal with why the replacement is not a replacement, you can't reach an individual. But weeks later get only a letter that says it was determined that code changes required additional equipment. Since the STATE LAW required the code change it's an "upgrade" according to AHS not covered by contract. Even when the language is quite clear that the warranty is for replacement when the product is not working and "broken". So, it's not that the replacement is asked for because of the new code, but rather that the replacement is because after 20 years it won't work anymore - even after all the attempts to repair.

Guess what, under the new code there are certain requirements that must be met for new unit. BUT AHS says, "Oh no, that's extra not a replacement." But the replacement is NOT allowed and no one has the old stuff and the STATE does not allow install with additional new requirements. Add to that the AHS won't warranty what the inept installer does, and you must use who they call unless you want to take a "cash out" which means for the microwave it was $50 rather than the $150 AHS had to pay for the old replacement part. After all the problems with heater and a/c units it's laughable that AHS never followed up with information requested. Bottom line I would rate this company a minus five stars AND would tell anyone to put the money they would pay for a warranty into a savings account instead. Then hire your own competent professional, because you will never get what you want or need from AHS.

We had used AHS since 2009 on a house we lived in and then rented out while we were stationed in other locations (being in the military). However, we just sold our house and called to cancel our policy. After being put on hold and routed through two different departments asking if we were sure we wanted to cancel our policy (on a home we no longer owned), they told us we had to pay a $60 early cancellation fee! I can’t believe this is how they reward loyal customers who have been with them nearly 10 years, even when the prices have gone up over $140 each year since we first started. It’s crazy to think you even have early cancellation fees when it comes to selling the home. Just another way to nickel and dime their customers!

Our air conditioner unit was not shutting itself off and it just ran constantly. We had a company come out through American Home Shield and I was not very impressed with them at all. They didn't act professional. I felt like I had a couple of guys coming in to my house that I hired off the bulletin board from somewhere. First, they looked at the thermostat and said they needed to change the filter. I said that we just changed it not too long ago, but we could do that. He said that if we changed the filter, it would probably make a difference. Then, they went outside. I didn't go out there because I have a really bad knee and I’m in a wheelchair so, I couldn't just hop out there to see what they were doing.

The guy said that he washed the unit off really good. The unit itself is new and we just bought this house a year ago, so I couldn't imagine that it would be that. That was all they did and they didn't go up in the attic to check the other filter up there. Since it's cool down here, it seems to have reset itself to run like it's supposed to. The contractors didn't act like they cared to do a whole lot and they were a half hour late. I appreciated that they came out but they need to get some manners.

Everett came out for an electrical outlet and the gentleman who came out to do that was the same guy who came out when our garbage disposal needed to be hooked up. The people who had this house before us didn't have it hooked up and it was causing our dishwasher to make the water go up in our sink. The guy came and pulled the plug out of the plate and hooked it up. He knew what he was doing and he was on-time. The switch for the dishwasher went out within the time frame for him to come back, so he came back out and it was the same plate that he had to take off. He was super professional, nice and very helpful. I'd have him here any time. Everett Service was great. I love American Home Shield because we've had good experiences with other things and the people were great. I have been with them for a little over a year. Te renewal is coming up next month and I will be renewing it.

A contractor called and sent somebody out. When I looked up the company, it didn't have very good ratings. Still, the tech who came was very efficient and quick. We had another homeowner’s policy, and we called but they never called back. American Home Shield calls back and I am happy about that. My wife called to file the claim and the turnaround time was about two weeks. That was from the time that the contractor called and set up an appointment up to the time the guy got scheduled to be out here. It was a long time with us trying to be without a washer.

The guy was nice and he was on-time. We called prior and he brought a part which had something to do with the agitator. He was advised that the washing machine was leaking a little bit. He showed us where there was some soap build up, cleaned that out and put the new part on. Then, we ran the cleaner on it three times and the dark stuff coming out on our clothes was over, but the machine was leaking more. The contractor didn’t fix the problem and it got worse. He didn’t delve into it deep enough to find out what was going on. My wife called last week, and they were supposed to call back today and make some type of arrangements for him to come back out.

As an 11 year customer (with only a couple small claims) of AHS with a 16 year old R-22 air conditioning system with a leak in the evaporator coil.

After a lack of response from AHS we hired another A/C company to come out and take a look to confirm the diagnosis. While AHS wants to replace only the evap coil in a 16 year old system (mind you R22 is being phased out by the EPA in 2020). The technician has stated that everything needs to be replaced (outside unit, air handler and furnace). Even though the average replacement cost of an R22 evap coil ranges from $2000-2500 per our technician, yet $650 is the initial offer from AHS, highway robbery? The entire premise of having a home warranty revolves around not having to spend big money on repairs for your household when the time comes, it's even in AHS's marketing tactics. But when you have a major unit issue in the household, don't expect this company to do the right thing.

Second company did not show up during the appointment, I had to reach out to reschedule! Just despicable.

When they showed up no diagnostic once again! The entire time I’m chasing them not the other way around. Had to force to be connected to the United States customer service (since they outsource and it’s the worst not kidding scripted nonsense). Still no call backs regarding diagnostic, escalated with no result. Still no return of a single phone call that was promised more the once to be returned. Still playing ping pong (who’s fault is it, not a single apology for wasting my time or correcting any of the problems thus far). I am beyond exhausted and frustrated. Today I finally once again contacted THEM instead of them contacting me as promised with a resolution.. They stated my repair was denied and a new unit will have to be given.

Transferred to the department and after 30 minutes he tells me no.. I am beyond livid! He can’t do anything. He can't give me corporate phone number. He doesn’t have it. He doesn’t have a supervisor. It’s not his problem. He wants to transfer me to customer service in Egypt to play the ping pong bit all over again! I don’t think so. I’m canceling my Policy and getting all of my money back! Every red cent! I will be filing complaints with every agency available to me! Just a nightmare from start to finish! I was with AHS for 3 months. I paid about $45 month. My AC went out. I called and did a service request. AC company came out next day. My coil evaporator was leaking. The AC company tried to sell me a new AC system. I wanted mine fixed! They told me my portion was going to be 1860. Way too much in my opinion. I called AHS and said, "What is update on my AC?" They said AC company was going to tell me my price and the AC company can fix it next day! So I said, "NO. You need to tell me what y'all are going to pay and what if anything I am responsible for!" They could not give me an answer and then stated it's still under review. I said, "If it is still under review why are they coming to my house to fix it and telling me I owe 1860? How do they know how much I owe if it still under review?"

This is what I think is happening here!!! We pay AHS every month and then pay a service fee for these companies to come out and charge whatever they want. People are paying without doing research as to how much it really cost to fix something without using this so called warranty! I did the research and called around. I got my AC fixed for $1200 without using this warranty!! I will never get another warranty again! To be honest I really don't think AHS pays for any claims! People please do your research and make sure you aren't paying more than you should be paying!

Called due to AC cutting off and was told by AC tech it was a breaker issue and they could help. So, called for electrician to come for the AC breaker popping and our breakfast room breaker popping. He claims he changed the breaker for breakfast room but we strongly believe his did not and just put the old one back. The break has the label worn off so hard to believe it was new. Said AC breaker was right amps for size of unit and just popped it back and nothing else. Within 30 minutes of him leaving both breaker popped again. Heat in Louisiana is pretty oppressive so intermittent AC over 3 weeks is not pleasant. I called to request a different company be dispatch and have been given a total runaround. 2 days of calls where the call center only follows a set script, puts you on hold and then you mysteriously get disconnected and have to start all over again. My renewal is next month and if no resolution in the next week, it will not be renewed.

Universal Pool & Spa came out for our pool. I do the online request with AHS always and it's easy as pie. And so far everybody they sent have been pretty good. I haven't had any complaints except before I had the filter repaired, it was kinda vague in the policy whether or not it was covered or not, so I called them to find out if it was going to be covered. And it really was sort of a challenge to get to somebody to talk to on the phone. It was like I had to wait forever to go through 400 prompts, and then it was not the easiest thing to talk to somebody in person directly about your policy.

It usually takes about a week to get the the problems resolved. And this last pool company was pretty good. They actually came out within 24 hours of the service request. I didn't even have to wait for them to call. They just kinda showed up and that was kinda cool. I’ve recommended AHS to colleagues at work because everybody has houses that they need to maintain, and warranties are the best way to do it sometimes.

My AC unit was not cooling and I filed a claim online with AHS like I always do as it's so much easier than doing it on the phone. AHS assigned A&A Heating and Cooling to my claim and they're about an hour away from me. I made the claim at 6 o'clock in the morning and they called me as soon as they opened. And they assured me that they come to my area. It was on a Thursday and the earliest that they could get out was on a Saturday morning between 8:00 and 12:00. But the serviceman called me about 7:30 and said he was about 20 minutes out. So, he was here and he had to add two pounds of Freon on the unit.

We had a discussion about Freon because it's getting harder and harder to come by. So, there's that whole issue and he explained ahead of time that AHS would pay the first $10 and I'd pay the remainder of the Freon. I have two units and I have a heat pump upstairs. Usually, it is the heat pump that I have to add Freon to, so I'm familiar with American Home Shield's policy. Other than that, the tech was really good and very professional. He knew his stuff but my unit's old enough that I know my stuff too and he listened because who knows a unit better than the homeowner? He also didn't dismiss anything I was saying. I told him what the problem was and he just said to let him go take a look at it. So far, the unit's been doing okay since the repair though I have my fingers crossed.

If you have an old home, or even a new home, it makes sense to have a company like American Home Shield. In fact, I told my friends that if they don’t have this, they would be crazy because their house is as old as mine and things happen. I’ve been here for 16 years and I've been with American Home Shield all of those years. They’ve been very good for us. Submitting claims has been very easy. I've had a couple of water issues, as well as issues with the microwave, my dishwasher and the garage door. And American Home Shield has always responded.

I had three issues with water leaking and my pipes are in my ceiling so it was a matter of having to make a hole in the ceiling. The first water issue took about a week to take care of. Then on the second one, we were given a certain amount of money for replacing the area that the plumber had torn out, and a lot of people don’t do that. Mostly, the policy is that if a plumber tears something out, then they don’t repair it. You have to get somebody else to come and repair that. But they did real well with that.

I only had one issue with one plumbing company that I was very unhappy with. It was on the third water issue. The plumber would not even look to find out where the leak was coming from. He said it was coming from someplace down low but it was obvious it wasn’t. It was coming from the ceiling. Then he said that he wouldn’t get into it until somebody was sent out here to see if there was asbestos. Of course there wasn’t because this house had totally been redone and had all the sheetrock redone. And I told him that, but I found out that the person that he had coming out here was a friend of his. Then of course they insisted testing be sent off.

I ended up paying close to $4,000 that was totally unnecessary. I ended up having a contractor that I know come. But I don’t think that was American Home Shield’s fault and I wasn’t unhappy with their service. It was the plumber and people should let American Home Shield know if they have any issue. The company has to be informed to be able to remove the contractor so I did and there was no issue with that end. The next time I had a plumbing issue, I didn’t get that contractor.

I had a claim one time with my microwave but it was so old that they couldn’t get the parts so American Home Shield replaced that. The other time was when my oven wasn’t working properly, or I didn’t think it was. American Home Shield sent a guy out and he checked it out. He got it heating back again for me the way it’s supposed to. Then the next time would’ve been the dishwasher and my refrigerator. The guy repaired the refrigerator. But the dishwasher was so old that they couldn’t get parts and so American Home Shield replaced my dishwasher. More recently, Precision Door Services came out because the garage door wouldn't open. Something was broken and that's what the issue was. The guys came, took care of it, cleaned up the door and sprayed it. They did a great job.

I don’t recommend him, because he charged me $295 to remove the inlet where they can put their snake and put a new cap. He said the pipe in our sink was old. But after that, the sink is still overflowing. I'm not satisfied. He also told me about a survey link about his job. He got my cellphone and told me that he was going to show me how it was. But he didn't do that. He was the one who put on the information, and then when I was going to access it, he put finish on it. I cannot access it anymore.

I was concerned that AHS said it wasn't and I read the contract to say that it was. I had a little difficulty getting them to understand and agree and it took a couple of calls to make that happen. The second time I called back, the person understood what the situation was and said they would send someone out, and they did. After that, the plumbing company called back immediately, made an appointment for a day later, showed up in the timeframe given, and all worked well. They replaced the faucet and they were very good.

American Home Shield sent a contractor for my HVAC issue recently and it was a very positive experience. He replaced the capacitor and the unit came on. But I have another pending claim with AHS which is contrary to my overall experiences with them. I called AHS on May 21st about an appliance issue. AHS was very nice and helpful. They told me they can send out Platinum but to me, it sounded like a men's club. Then they said they can send Sears but I had to wait. It was June 6th when I heard from AHS saying I was assigned to a vendor. But I never heard from Sears and they never acknowledged that they were going to respond.

About three days before their scheduled arrival time, I started calling Sears and AHS asking if they were coming. I wanted to let them know that I wasn't going to be there till after 1:00 because I had an unexpected doctor's appointment. Sears was totally unhelpful. I did online chatting with Sears and AHS also tried to communicate with them. Then a guy from Sears called on the day of the appointment and said he was coming out in 30 minutes. But it was 9:00 I already told them not to come until after 1:00. He said he couldn't come and would try to come after 1:00. In the end, I got two calls from Sears telling me they were cancelling my appointment. Then I found out that they had assigned at least two different techs without telling me and they were supposed to come for the different appliances. The bottom line, June 6th and June 5th showed up but nobody came.

I called Sears and AHS and I was told that they couldn't repair until June 26th. Nothing has been done with the appliances. I asked if they can reprioritize it since it was all their fault cancelling one of the guys. But I was told no. I asked AHS if they could assign me to Platinum instead but was told that I couldn't change. I am paranoid to the point that maybe they're dragging this out hoping I'll get frustrated and buy new appliances. But overall, I can't fault AHS for this. They are my partner and I've been with them since the early 2000s with various houses. My experience with them in terms of submitting claims has been good.

I was on the phone with AHS for well over an hour today. 90% of that is being on hold. As an update to the last sentence in this review, I still have not received a call back from the supervisor who was supposed to call me directly immediately. It has been 30 minutes. If I could give negative stars I would. On top of everything else, I log into my account today and suddenly I have no contract in the system?!?! WHAT IS THIS!

I have called AHS on: April 15th, May 1st, May 5th, May 10th, May 13th, May 14th, May 15th, May 18th, June 5th, June 13th, June 14th, And TODAY, June 18th. 2 MONTHS AGO I filed claims for my AC, faucet and a leak in my home. I have called about 10 times now to get these issues resolved. It's been 2 months and nothing is fixed. Every time I call in the customer service rep is just going through the motions and calls the contractor to get the diagnosis. "I called the contractor and asked for the diagnosis" - After reading that in the notes so many times you'd think they'd try to offer a different solution than the d same steps each time. It makes no sense, customer service is not going through the procedures, it's helping your customers when the service is sub-standard. And in this case it gets worse each time. A lot led up to my request in May, but there's enough detail in here that I don't need to go into all the details from April to May.

In May, I just requested a new contractor and the Manager at AHS sent an email to contractor relations because obviously the contractor is not responding with a diagnosis (except they originally updated it from leak to slab leak so obviously they got some sort of update on it!) and I am just requesting the buyout to get the repairs done by another contractor that is actually responsive. The AHS Manager PROMISED ME I’d get a call back within 2 days…. NOPE - this was A MONTH AGO!

I spoke with someone last week and they said they escalated the situation to a supervisor and I should get a call back. NOTHING. I had to call again and finally got approval for the faucet payout, because they MAGICALLY discovered the diagnosis somewhere in their system. The AC unit has had 5 people come out, first guy said it needs to be replaced, then they send someone out to replace it, that guy said he thinks there might not be electricity to our AC unit (there was) and he wants an electrician to come out. They send an electrician and of course he says that's not the problem, so they RESEND the first guy (who is wondering why they had him come back to say the exact same diagnosis as the first time), and we finally get someone out today - now it will take at least another 2 weeks to get it replaced. IT HAS BEEN 2 MONTHS!

About the faucet and the leak - They have to send an email to the AHS Manager to figure out why the AHS contractor relations email hasn’t been addressed?! So now they have to send an email within their own system to find out why the first email isn’t being addressed. That is absurd. Oh, and they don’t know why my contract isn’t showing up on my account anymore so I have to call another number of their technical team to troubleshoot with them but they can’t transfer me.

I am now on the phone with another rep, who is not responding when I hear silence - which I presume means they’re putting me on mute instead of hold. I ask for her Manager and she puts me on hold before I can finish my sentence, then gets back on the line and said she called the contractor to request the diagnosis. The EXACT SAME THING the rep I spoke with 30 minutes before had done, but our call got disconnected when he said he couldn’t hear me and hung up. I tell her that she just did the exact same thing the previous rep did, and that I didn’t ask for that, I asked for a Manager.

She said she’ll transfer me to escalations, I said no I want to speak with her floor manager directly. I am now on hold again… It has been 10 minutes… The rep just came back on the line saying she will transfer me to a supervisor, then she says the supervisor is actually going to call me and she needs to end the call so they can call me right away. It's been almost 30 minutes.

Multiple calls to American Home Shield and getting nowhere, which last at least 25 minutes each time, having to explain myself over and over. I have spoke with three people just in the last three weeks in which all assured me that they would resolve the issue.

Two of the three said they would call me back the next day and never have. This is very frustrating to pay for the warranty and wait over three months to have the claim reviewed to see if they can go further with fixing the issue (ductwork). I am not impressed and highly frustrated. What has happened to good customer service. I would not be writing this if someone would actually follow through and call me back. If the issue can't be fixed then just say so. That way we can figure out what to do next.

Our AC broke back in February. They had an AC company come out. The AC guy replaced the disconnect box which is only supposed to be touched by a license electrician. He wired the disconnect wrong. He wired two Hots together. Was told by multiple electric companies that had we flipped our breaker back on it would have caused a fire because he was just sending all the electricity right back to the fuse box. No one wanted to take responsibility for it, not the AC company they sent out or American Home Shield. We ended up having to spend $11,000 on a new AC unit.

I used American Home Shield for my a/c and the experience I had was terrible. I have been with AHS for 2 years. First it took them 2 years to finally replace it. I have spent so much money on freon since they only cover $10 per pounds at that time. Their AC guys came like every 3 weeks in the summer, and they never wanted to replace it until recently. Also it seems like they don’t know how to talk to their AC companies they employ because AHS said $1000 for the replacement while the AC companies said over $5000 to replace it. If you're looking on the contract it's say 3x3 system section 1 covered all components and parts air conditioning including duct work.

The AC companies mentioned AHS don't cover because is not compatible so how you say if covered but we can't cover to replace it. This is should be a package. If you replace the condenser they should cover to replace the coil since they both comes together to make the AC work properly. After a month dealing with AHS the agent just want to make the claim done. She offer me cash out about $1100 and I try to get a quote for 7 AC companies and all of them saying over $8K to replace it. So how can I replace AC with $1100 AHS offer me, go figure. I did ask if they can send another AC companies to get 2nd opinions for AC replacement, AHS mentioned they don't do 2nd opinion so we stuck with the AC companies they send us.

As we're get closer to summer, I'm still to figure out my option so AHS comes back to me and say my out the pocket is $2450 instead of $1000 they told me in the beginning. After back in forth for over a month I have no choice to replace with the amount of $2450. I'm so disappointed the way AHS handle this situation. They don't communicate with their 3rd party (try to charge us $5000 to replace AC) and AHS don't do anything to help the customer by charging us more because they don't keep they promise on out the pocket expense. I'm sharing my experience so we all aware that AHS will not replace your AC no matter what they say on their TV commercial.

Well the A/C company said they would have to call American Home Shield to get the approval to buy the $1300 part. Okay- so, my husband has been calling every single day since then asking where the part is. As of yesterday they figured out that American Home Shield sent the part to a different company in the same town so, the company that was supposed to receive it went and picked it up. Well guess what, they sent the wrong part. Now we are told that they are going to overnight the correct part so, maybe we will get an A/C on the 16th day that it has been out. Mind you it is June and we live in Texas! We will see if American Home Shield can get the right!

Total Air Care called to set appointment for the 27th of May. Total Air showed up and said coil on outside unit needed cleaning. There was some debris at bottom of unit so he cleaned and left house and AC still didn't work. Called American Home Shield again - told them. They did a recall work order - said same thing - Total Air Care would contact me in 24 to 48 hours. They called set up appt for 30th of May.

The technician came out, replaced a wire, checked Freon levels and off he went. 1 hour later AC froze up. Called back to AHS. AC repair called again within 24 hours - set another appt for 06 of June. Total Air Care came out, replaced capacitor and a hard start. About an hour later frozen up. This time I call Total Air Care. I was told I had to call AHS so I did and ask to place an expedited work order in which they said they would. Total Air calls the next day and wants me to make a appt 6 days out. I then called AHS and ask if they would send another company out. They did - showed the up on the 12th of June and said they wouldn't do the work because other company started and they should finish.

I then called AHS back with technician and put technician on phone. He explained the issues he found. It has gotten turn over to Authorization department and I was told I should hear something about it by Friday. Friday came - no call or email so I waited till Monday and called. Still no word. Had to explain everything. I guess they don't do notes. Now 17th of June and AC still not fixed. I was told they had to wait on authorization to replace parts. Was never told about what was wrong and what parts needed replacing. Still waiting. Now I thinking why I got the warranty and is it worth the trouble.

We were offered a replacement of a similar one or $372.00 check and that includes all fees and install which is about $200 to low of course. We opted to have them order it and set up the install. Here we are 2 months later and still no appliance! Keep getting told it’s delayed or we get hung up on when we call and ask to speak to a supervisor about this issue. This is unacceptable for ANYONE to go 2+ months waiting on a replacement when my warranty payment is made on time all of the time! I have sent email after email today and will update as I get a response. At this time I would not recommend the service but that may change depending on the response and what they do to make it right.

Our AC wasn’t working and Total Air Care came and they fixed it. It’s working great now. They were professional, they were on time, they explained they needed to do, and was in there and was out. The technician was knowledgeable. Submitting claims with American Home Shield is very easy. But the online does not cover some issues. The online version does not allow you to insert options that are not already preformatted.

With the air conditioning unit, if you got a heating and a cooling unit and your heating unit is not working properly, it only asks you something about a furnace or oil. I think that those are formatted for heating options that are in the northern United States and not necessarily what is listed in the southern where you just have natural gas that goes into all of your unit. And for a lay person, how do you determine if the air conditioner is keeping the heat from working or the working that’s affecting the other when all of that is all together. So, I think that needs to be addressed.

On the initial claim that I did, I did it online and I told them that the unit kept giving me an option for the air conditioning unit. So I knew that the air and the heat worked together. This was during the winter months. And so, they came out to fix an air conditioning unit and not the heating portion of it, and it became a little bit for them to get it repaired because that was not what was in the computer and not what they were told to do. Other than that, the contractors are professional. They come right in, do what they have to do, and let me know what they were doing. They let me know that they’re on their way, too. The two techs I’ve had have been very good.

I would certainly recommend American Home Shield for its customer friendly service over other home warranties. They’re easy to deal with, their responsibilities for the homeowner are clear, so you know what you’re getting. That’s a good plus. I’d like to see it so that if you have one or two things that needs addressing while they’re there, that they could just make one trip, I think that that would be a plus if we could do it like that.

I filed a claim for my refrigerator freezer and the contractor was wonderful. He knew that the reason it was chunking up was that it was leaking. It had a tiny leak which I didn’t see, but he showed me. We had ice forming and we were always having to take the ice out. The small leak just kept forming bigger ice cubes, and we would have to take the thing out and dump it. Then one day, with the weight of all those heavy ice cubes, it just came crashing through. He had to fix the whole thing. He explained everything and came back. He was very professional. I've had people in here that had badmouthed American Home Shield terribly, but he was great about doing the job from beginning to end.

It has been slow to make ice, so I just hope that it is fixed right. We have ran out of ice which we never did before. I’ve kinda wanted to give it a little bit of time to see if it was just us or the new part so I’m just leaving it alone for right now. However, I don’t like that they want to collect the deductible when you’re not sure if they can fix what your problem is. They’re kinda not good about that because they wanna collect the money upfront.

We had at least four visits for our AC unit. It started shortly after we had bought the house. The heating system and the cooling system were kinda combined. It’s a heat pump. And when we moved in in November, we noticed that it wasn’t heating. It shut off. So, American Home Shield sent someone out and serviced it. And then it was shortly after that then there was another issue that had come up. They came back out again, and they had replaced the compressor and the switch on the outside. They had also replaced the air exchange unit upstairs in the attic. And things were working fine. Then when we switched over a month or so ago to the air conditioning, then the air conditioner ran for just a short period of time and then it shut off.

And so, we had somebody come out and take a look at it at that point. And they’d indicated that they used a safety shutoff switch up in the pan, and there was moisture that collected in the pan, so it automatically shut the system down. So, it had dried up by that point. We cleaned it out and then put the switch back in. It ran for 45 minutes like that after the service guy had left. Then it shut off again because the problem wasn’t fixed. So, we had contacted Home Shield. They sent the guy back out again. And he said, “Well, my thought might be that when they installed the air exchange unit upstairs that they may not have gotten it level.” So, he took the side off of it and said that was the problem.

When the installers put in that system, they had forgotten to get it really level. So, the condensation that forms from the coils would drop into the pan, but it wouldn’t run back to the drain side. It would run over the edge of the pan, and then down into the catch pan that’s underneath that system, and it would shut the system off. So, then they called up Haskins Heating & Air Conditioner who were the ones that had installed the new unit upstairs. They came back and they leveled the whole unit. And it’s functioning fine now ever since.

The contractor came out after he was called. But the good news is after he was contacted in the beginning that we were having troubles and that they’d installed the unit, he called within a matter of hours, and he came out that same day, which was nice. We’d been without the air conditioning system for a couple of weeks probably. I’d have to go up to the attic and wipe the pan out. And then I eventually just took that shutoff switch outta the pan. I’d run it for the morning there, so it would cool the house down. And then I would have to go back up and drain the pan out that’s out there, so it would operate again the next time. The contractor from Haskins came out quickly and he and his workmate had finally finished that for us and got it leveled out so that everything was working fine.

We’re glad that the sellers had agreed to pay for American Home Shield as far as the insurance policy. When we had moved down here, we were thinking that things should be fine. The house was built in 2006. But our agent suggested that they get the Home Shield warranty on it, which cost us about $850, and then 75 three different times. But with that, through the warranty, the compressor, the switch, and the air exchange unit upstairs were replaced. So, we came out ahead.

We had a broken oven and submitting the claim for it with American Home Shield was very easy. I went online and placed my claim. And then I was contacted via text, email and then, eventually, the call from the contractor. The contractor was a very nice and professional man. And on top of this, he established the problem, found out what parts he needed to have to fix the oven, and the next time they scheduled an appointment, he came and fixed it.

So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been good. Unfortunately for me, it’s an old property and we have a lot of old appliances. And every time something breaks, I always think that it’s time to put a new one. We always try to patch it up, which in the long run I think is not very cost-effective for me. I have to pay my monthly payments, then I have to pay the fee for the contractor to come. So this is all adding to high cost yearly. It will be a better deal for both sides if at some point, AHS would look into long term cost-effectiveness. Sending contractors every six months to fix something doesn’t make sense. And, for me, also, it is a waste of time. Because hardly ever, no matter how well I describe the model of appliance or the issue that I’m facing, every time, it is a minimum two visits, which means somebody has to be at home twice as a minimum. It means we have to maneuver work and everything to accommodate.

Also, the contractor always gives a time bracket, which means one of us has to be out of work for half a day no matter what. And with the current prices of new appliances, I was even considering not to call AHS because I expected that this will happen. Maybe it’s better for us if we just buy a new oven. We decided finally to go the other way.

When the part came in, they came back, and they started to install it. They were about three hours on it when they said it was not gonna work. They were gonna have to replace it. I then had to file another request, which American home Shield said to just turn in. I did and I got an immediate response that said that I’d hear back from them. I didn’t hear anything from Hansen. I called them and they said they haven’t gotten an approval yet. But I told them that I talked to American Home Shield and they said it was approved.

There was a customer service representative from American Home Shield who was a nice woman. She said she would get on it. The next day, I got a call from American Home Shield. This was on a Wednesday. She said they ordered the replacement and it would be in on Friday. Hansen can install it on Saturday. From the start, it took about a month because there were two issues. But that was understandable. That's just the way things happen. It was like two claims at the same time. But everything was great. I would get text messages from American Home Shield of who was gonna do the service and when they were gonna do it. I'd then get a text the company, this case from Hansen, that they were on their way and that they would be there between 9:00 and 11:00. I was very satisfied with it all. It was a first-rate deal.

We've had a great experience with American Home Shield. But there's been a few hiccups here and there. We've been with them since we purchased our home seven years ago and their prices have gone up every time. We went from $38 a month. Now, we're up to 78. However, my complaint is, is we got a letter in the mail the other day saying that they are no longer going to renew our plan, and that we have to upgrade to this new plan. Meanwhile, we have not upgraded anything new in our home that needs to be covered, and that was a very big disappointment.

We referred many, many people to AHS over these places like Choice Home and all that stuff, because they are extremely reliable and good. They have quality services that work for me that can facilitate our needs. Their customer service has also gotten much better as far as phone wise. But we got a letter in the mail that said they will cover our contract until September, which is when it expires, but they will not renew it unless we pay now $120 a month. And that's very discouraging after being a loyal customer and participant. We own things in our home, and that's why we have a coverage plan, and to be cut off from that and not renewed does not make sense at all to me. But we really don't wanna lose them. Back then, when they were servicing and I was paying, even though their rates went up all the time, we were getting the service that we were paying for.

I had to pay for it and then I would get a discount on it. The service from the contractor was great. It’s just the older gentleman that came told us the truth when they did the assessment. He said that the coil in the air conditioner had to be replaced and in a couple of months, that was gonna go out because it’s 16 years on that unit. It also has an old Freon in it and then they have new Freon unit so he said that I might as well replace the system. It's only supposed to last 13 years before replacing it. I don’t know anything about that. I said that I don’t wanna spend eighteen hundred to repair and then two months later it goes back out that was why I was wanting to get a new one. But I went on and got it repaired so I don’t know what’s gonna happen. It’s still up and going.

It took a while to get everything in but it was a good experience. They were very honest about what their assessments were. They did a fabulous job of giving two different estimates 'cause homeowners don’t know much about HVAC systems. They walked us through the steps on what they were doing, what needs to be done and what they were gonna do and the extent of it. I’m satisfied right now.

I contacted American Home Shield when there was a leak on one of the sinks coming from one of the pipes in the bathroom in the hallway. And that got fixed. When we were putting the fridge, there's a little spigot in the back of where the fridge is, but it's a waterline that goes to the ice maker and the water in the fridge. That little spigot valve there was not working, so we had a flooding incident on the day that we moved in. The guy came out and he fixed that. He came out knowing that it was broken, and it was on the initial repair and when we discovered that was broken. But he came out without the parts he needed, and then he went outside and kicked all his stuff all over the ground and soldered some stuff together and made one and put it in. And then, there was another part that American Home Shield deemed would've been through calcium build-up within the tap, and they didn't cover that.

The people at J&K Plumbing told me that they were gonna call American Home Shield and get the prices for those parts to fix the tap and the garbage disposal. I made about four calls to J&K Plumbing over the next 10 days, asking them where they were up to, and they kept telling me that they sent everything off to American Home Shield and were waiting on approval. They've got all the prices for the valves and things that they needed. And then, I went online and saw on American Home Shield's website that the ticket was completely closed. So then, I called American Home Shield and they said they'd never had anything back from J&K Plumbing.

American Home Shield said that J&K Plumbing told them that there was calcium build-up on the tap, and also that the garbage disposal had seized and that was possibly due to the calcium build-up as well. They didn't cover those and they just closed the ticket down and said no one was gonna cover those anyway. But they hadn't until that day heard anything from J&K Plumbing. American Home Shield called J&K Plumbing and got the diagnostics from them that day. But J&K Plumbing had told me a week before and several times in the days following that, that they had submitted everything to American Home Shield and were waiting on approval, which they had not.

Now I've paid out of pocket for the garbage disposal because I needed one, and American Home Shield wasn't gonna pay. I didn't even use the J&K Plumbing people because they were a bit unprepared and unprofessional. So I didn't wanna work any further with them. So I had Benjamin Franklin Plumbers come out and replace the garbage disposal. The Benjamin Franklin people said that I might as well replace all of the taps and the faucets on the bathtub, instead of them opening up the faucet and ordering the parts.

I also had American Home Shield for five years at my old house. I called them to cancel that policy once I moved out of the house and the rep told me that it was cancelled. But then I discovered that they haven't cancelled it. Somehow, they hadn't taken money from my credit card, so then it shows to be a past due payment. But it wasn't attached to any credit card anymore, so they weren't drawing it. I called American Home Shield about that again and spoke to somebody. I made three calls about that. So the third time, it was still showing that there was a cancellation fee, and I apparently didn't really cancel them. I cancelled one policy and got another policy on the new home that I bought. So, without me looking there back on the computer, I couldn't tell whether the charges are still sitting there or not.

It is now 6/17/2019 and we have yet to receive any reimbursement. Any calls to their company, and we've made many, have been useless. We keep getting told that the "Customer Retention Department" takes care of that so they keep transferring us over and no one picks up the phone. It's happened at least 6 times now. Updated on 06/28/2019: AHS sent 2nd company technician on 6/19/19. Washer now NOT doing anything (Sears technician has no idea what Atlas Appliance Services did to mess up the washer; it was just not spinning and now he states that the washer is doing nothing) and his team stated that washer had a bad sensor. Part ordered and delivered on 6/27. Technician was to have shown up on 6/27-did not show up, never called & did not return any phone calls. I called Sears this morning and I was told that they would be sending a technician on Monday, 7/1, between 8am-noon to install the part. I am going to tell you right now, that if my washer is not working at 100% after this 6th part is installed-AHS WILL replace the washer. I am NOT taking cash in lieu of nor am I waiting any longer for a working washer. On 7/1 it will be 77 days since I filed the claim on 4/15/19.

Original Review: I called AHS on 4/17/19 because my washer was NOT spinning. They sent a reputable company and after 5 visits and replacing 5 different parts-washer still NOT spinning. The washer was only 18 months old and my 1 year warranty on parts and labor had expired but Samsung was willing to pay for the parts which is why AHS would not replace the washer. 62 days later and washer still not spinning. AHS is now sending a 2nd contractor. Did I mention that I was offered $190 for a $480 washer? I told AHS where they could stick their $190..Fix it or replace it!

First of all I really want to say this ""Beware of this company."" You may be just giving your money away, I have been a customer of American Home Shield for almost a year, now that I need their service, of course you have to pay a 100.00 service call, which I don't have any problems with. The problem that I have is that, they don't cover AC Freon just 10.00 per pound, and they said that my system takes 11 pounds of Freon (1,265 ), that's what I have to pay to have an AC Evaporator repair done. Guess how much their contractor charge for each pound of Freon. 125.00 per pound that means that I need to pay 1,265 out of my packet. One tank of Freon (R-140a) of 25 pounds cost around 150 dollars and they said they can't reuse the Freon that is in the unit, which to me is a complete lie.

Now I look for a different way to fix this problem trying to get my own certify company, they said that I can do that but they will just cover 110 for the whole repair, so here you have it people why I'm paying almost 900.00 a year for a company that don't cover no more than 110 dollars for an AC Evaporator repair. When I asked why they just cover 110 for the whole repair they said that is because they don't pay retail price to their contractors, now I see why I have to pay to this contractor 1,265 dollars is because I'm paying for the whole repair myself. The private company is charging me 1,450 for the whole repair, so please do yourself a favor. Don't throw your money away with this company. Save your money monthly. When you need a repair you will have the savings to do it.

It has taken over 2 MONTHS to get my AC in working function, which it is still not. After 2 summers of band aid repairs AHS finally agreed to properly replace the condenser and coil. I was pleased with this information, only to find out this was the start of my nightmare. From the get go I was bounced to 3 different contractors, I'm assuming to get the cheapest quote, only to be saddled up with the most inept of the bunch. I would have to repeatedly call AHS and the Contractor to try to see what was going on and to continue to push the repair forward.

After having calls dropped by AHS they would not call back and I would have to consistently repeat the problem over and over to the customer service department. After AHS informed me that all parts were with the contractor and ready for installation the contractor showed up AND DIDN'T HAVE THE COIL. The technician had no clue that he was supposed to replace the coil so that all the refrigerant didn't just leak out of the system when he installed the condenser.

I called the contractor only to find out AHS delivered the wrong coil to them or didn't deliver it at all. Then radio silence again for over a week. Finally, the contractor called and stated the coil was a special product and wouldn't be available for 2 more week (2 months into this repair). I called AHS to try to get this handled or expedited only to be hung up on again, call back again, and then told that I'd have to call back when it wasn't the weekend, SO I'D HAVE TO GO THROUGH IT ALL AGAIN. Long story short this experience so far has been the worst most frustrating and redundantly useless experience I have ever had to go through. And to top it all off I STILL HAVE NO FUNCTIONAL AC. 2 months in and counting.

Although I have been happy with the technician services over the years, when it comes to AHS issuing the customer a refund (for various reasons), they give a major runaround, such as continually placing your call back into the queue, putting you on hold for extended periods, and not making notifications of your refund request in the files. This has happened on the two occasions I have requested a refund, such as for cancelling a service request due to taking four days to even get a call from the technician to schedule an appt. and for cancelling my AHS contract due to selling my house. I called American Home Shield to have both of my AC units checked and the contractor corrected one unit efficiently. They did a really great job, and they told me the other unit was fine. But I had to call back as the second unit went out. The contractor came out to repair it and they're charging me the service fee again. I don't see why I'm being charged for service for the second call. But I was very grateful that the contractor was able to resolve the problem right away. It was something I needed immediately taken care of. I live in the lower Rio Grande Valley where our temperatures get to 100 degrees.

This contractor is the same company that American Home Shield has always called out. They've always been excellent. Even when I've had an issue that they needed to come back, they would come back and take care of the problem. They respond right away. As soon as I put the call in, they would call or text me and tell me to call in and schedule an appointment. And it's usually within 24 hours. It's been great. I recommend American Home Shield to other people that don't have it because I've never had an issue. The $75 for a service call is a little bit too much, but I understand that that is my choice.

My experience has with American Home Shield has been a catastrophe. I've been with them for a couple of decades and I've found that the quality of service has continued to decline. I'm sure it's a constant challenge for American Home Shield to try to find reputable and diligent contractors and I sympathize with them. Even so, I've stopped subscribing because I found it to be a waste of money. When I moved into a new house in October, I decided to give it another try thinking maybe they've done some QA. I've been paying 50 plus dollars since then.

Recently, I had my built-in microwave go on the fritz. I called AHS and got contacted by Express Appliance. A very nice gentleman came out, moved some things around, assured my wife that the microwave was fixed, then left. But then, the microwave still didn't work. We called again and the same gentleman came out and tried to fix it a second time. That didn't work. AHS and their contractor ordered some more parts and a different tech came out. That tech said that they didn't have all the parts needed and that they would have to order the missing parts. That was a week ago.

Today, when I called Express Appliance to tell them the part has arrived at my home, I was disconnected twice. I waited for somebody to pick up my call for over 25 minutes. At that point, I was somewhat disgusted. The lady with whom I finally spoke with was very apologetic. She explained there were only three people in the office to receive the calls, which means they're terribly understaffed. Currently, we have somebody scheduled to come out this Wednesday between 11:00 and 3:00. This will be the fourth time that my wife or I will have missed work for our microwave.

When my air conditioning wasn't cooling, I did a service request online and the American Home Shield site seemed relatively simple, straightforward, and easy to use. The website told me that a contractor would contact me within 48 business hours. I did my claim on a Friday and they didn't contact me until Monday. I had to wait the weekend without an AC because it was a holiday weekend. But I had minor suffering as the temperature was not as bad as it is now which is almost 90 where I am in Virginia. Back then, it was a little cooler so it wasn't too bad. I had some fans running and I was able to stay relatively comfortable.

A technician from Billy's A/C came out on Memorial Day Monday. He wasn't happy about it, but he did the work anyway. He put in at least a pound of refrigerant and the sealer leak detector stuff. The AC has been working fine since then. I had the same company and the same guy come out here last year when I had a problem with the AC. They took care of me then. I've had no problems with Billy's A/C Service. I've also had no problems with American Home Shield. I talked to several people, including my friends, about the company and recommended them.

The only thing is I just got something in the mail from American Home Shield saying that their rate is going up again for my coverage. It was two years ago that my rate went up. I understand prices and things change. It's only a dollar and something, but still, nobody like a price increase. The price keeps going up little by little. The first eight years I had the program, it stayed at the same price. But now, for the past two or three years, it went up twice. It's still affordable though so I'm gonna keep it. I just hope things level out for a while price-wise. When someone comes out, I have to pay $75 to American Home Shield for a vendor's visit.

And in my Hot Springs Village home, the second refrigerator which sat right outside the door in the two-car garage quit cooling. So, we turned in a service order on it. The repair guy came out and said it was not covered because it’s sitting in the garage. He said that was what American Home Shield told him. I pulled out the contract and it didn't say anything like that. So, I called in three times and tried to talk to a representative. The rep was hard to understand and argued with me that it wasn’t covered. When I finally proved to them that it was covered, they put me on hold.

The second time, I wound up talking to a supervisor. We went through the same thing again. He said it was not covered. But finally, he agreed that it was, said he had to run it through an approval process, put me on hold for a little while, came back, and said it was gonna take a while. He asked if I would like him to call me back. So, I had to do that and I never heard from him. So, I got it escalated up and the lady looked at the facts and read the contract. And she said she got a company out of Little Rock to come fix it, and it worked fine. So, my experience with the call center was terrible. My experience with the escalation was wonderful. I should’ve never had to escalate it at all. It was very simple. You read the contract and it said it’s covered. And when you tell somebody you’re gonna call back, you need to call them back. This dragged out over a 10-month period.

I could've verified whether or not that appliance was covered under the warranty or I needed to have gone a different route. Most times, I'll do things online but in this case, there was a question of whether it was covered or not and who I had to call. And that was the difficult issue.

When it came in, he let me know and said, “What would be a convenient time?” And I told him, and he went and repaired it. And then he let me know when it was done. He was very smooth. The air conditioning now runs very smoothly.

We had our microwave out for about two months and the first guys that American Home Shield sent out never contacted us again. I had to contact AHS several times to find out what was going on. And apparently, it was a problem with the contractor. AHS then reassigned Hornet Appliance and they came right out and took care of it. They were really good. AHS is doing a replacement for it, but I'm having trouble figuring out about it. I emailed them. I found a KitchenAid that was in the price range and I had to follow-up on them about it. By the time they got back to me, it was five days later and the sale was over, so the item was $200 more. But right now, we are approved to replace it. I just have to go out and buy one, and I need to submit something and then I’ll get reimbursed.

We used to have another warranty company for a number of years, and then we switched over to American Home Shield for the price. But the air conditioning coverage is not very good with AHS. When our air conditioner broke, we had to pay out of pocket for a new one because they were just gonna replace the coil. The contractor explained that we could patch it up, but it would break down again. And we would already have to pay $1,200 for the patch-up. I’m not really happy with their air conditioning service, but we’ve had a few appliances that have needed looking at and I'm happy with the other stuff.

Submitting a claim with AHS was really easy since I started doing them online for the most part. I like the new feature on there where I can select a contractor. But, it would be nice to make it more obvious when you're signing up on their website. The first time I did it online, I missed it. Whereas the next time, I noticed that I can select someone else. So, I clicked on the dropdown and picked someone else and looked at the reviews. The reviews there are really helpful because, in the past, it has been frustrating. Sometimes, you get a great contractor, and other times the contractor will just blow you off and you don't ever hear back from them.

My husband dealt with the contractor who came out and he said he liked him a lot. The guy was very nice, professional, knew exactly what was wrong and he fixed it quickly. I'm a little sad that I had to pay the $100 service plus the Freon but I understand that the EPA put restrictions on it. We got an email saying that would be the case.

My air conditioning wasn’t coming on and based on what the technician told me, there was an issue with the fuse within the motherboard of the system. I submitted a claim online with AHS and it was extremely easy. After not more than 10 minutes, someone was scheduled to come out and the tech came out the very next day. He was great. He was running a little late, so he made sure to call me. I also received a call from American Home Shield letting me know that the technician was running a little behind and they gave me the time window when he’d be here.

He arrived in that time, wore his little foot booty thingy, came in the house, and took his time to kinda assess the problem. It took him about 45 minutes to let me know that he was really trying to hone in on the issue, which he did, and realized that the fuse needed to be changed. Then he went ahead and placed the order for the part. The part came in about three days later then the second technician came out on a Saturday morning. He arrived on time, had the issue resolved, and the AC was blowing within 30 minutes. Since the repair, the unit's performance has been awesome and I can’t complain. All in all, AHS should keep doing what they’re doing. Also, my brother texted me because he had been having issues with his home warranty company and I recommended American Home Shield to him today. He called and got a policy set up.

American Home Shield and I have settled our AC issue. We ended up cashing out the max amount given to us by AHS and put it towards a brand new AC. Still not satisfied that AHS only has one contractor in the metro area, and that they will not come out on the weekends.

    Original Review: June 16, 2019

We live in the Oklahoma City Metro area and AHS has only ONE Heat and Air company on their vendor list. This lone contractor does not come out on weekends and unfortunately our AC doesn't break down during the week during normal business hours. So I call AHS to ask if we can use an outside contractor that will come out at 7pm on a Saturday night and he said "no" that that is not within their guidelines. That we will have to use their lowly contractor and he will come out 24-48 hours after placing the service request. AHS needs to seriously re-visit their AC guidelines. Waiting 48 hours during the summer in Oklahoma for the AC repairman is not okay. We pay a fortune to AHS for our contract and expect a little better customer service from them for weekend breakdowns like this.

I submitted it online and the overall claims process was fairly simple. But it took a week to get someone out. I live in Tennessee and it was pretty hot during that week. They typically send out Greenway. But maybe they should consider getting a secondary company to use, so it wouldn't take so long. Other than that, it was fine. The guy who came out provided excellent customer service. He presented me with a couple of options in regards to the repair of my AC unit. And it's doing well since the repair. Now, we can go up and downstairs, whereas before, my daughter was sleeping downstairs because it was so hot upstairs.

Recently, American Home Shield had somebody come in to do a rekey for me. I had just purchased my home. And the seller purchased the warranty program from American Home Shield for a year. One of the things that was offered was the rekey for $75. The experience was good. It took them a little while to come out, but that was mainly because of my availability. I was only available on evenings. The two gentleman that came out were done in 15 minutes at the most. And they did exactly what I wanted. I had three locks for them to service that I wanted to have one essential key for, and they did that for me. And then I had two or three bedrooms upstairs that I sort of wanted the same deal. They were able to get it done quickly. And they were nice and professional and it was a great experience.

Initially, there was a little bit of difficulty with the process. There were some issues with getting a hold of American Home Shield. There was a little bit of phone time for a day or two and a couple of voicemails back and forth. I initially called and it went to voicemail. They returned my call very quickly, but then I would call back, and then it just went to voicemail again. So, getting a hold of them was a little bit difficult. But everything else was good and once the guys came out, that was great.

Our ac was making this really bad, clunking sound, and we’ve called AHS two times on this issue. It was different guy first, who was from Bob's Cooling. He said, “This thing needs to be replaced because it was rusted out.” And then they sent out a second person to make sure that guy diagnosed the problem correctly. That was Desert Heating & Cooling, and the contractor said, “Yes, that does need to replaced.” And then, they replaced it.

I have five properties with AHS and things come up because they’re rentals, and submitting a claim is a piece of cake. I just go online, do my claims and they’re Johnny-on-the-spot, get somebody scheduled and out here. But the only difficulty I’ve had the whole time with them is if I do have to call them, I am put on hold for an obnoxious amount of time. And the only other complaint that I have if they’re wanting to improve their service, is that this last time I called in regarding a plumbing issue on a house up in Crestline and the plumber said that they called it in, and I was supposed to have to pay $475 out of my pocket. I don’t have a problem with that, but when I called, American Home Shield knew nothing about this.

When I called the plumber back and said, “Hey, my insurance company knows nothing about this.” They said, “Well, we called it in.” So, there was a little lack of communication, and that happened before. But other than that, I think they’re a fantastic company. I would definitely refer them as a warranty company. And pne of the things that they have done that I think is fantastic is that they have a live chat now, which I’m so appreciative of. Because I would rather do it on a computer than talk on the phone or be on hold for 25 minutes and waste my time. I’m so happy with what they did well.

The dishwasher wasn't draining and Sears was the repair people that AHS sent. They arrived early, were very professional, and they were able to resolve the issue pretty quickly. Apparently, there was some glass stuck in the dishwasher somewhere and they were able to remove it and give us some advice about how to prevent that from happening again.

Before the dishwasher, there was an issue with our radiator and I had a problem when I submitted my claim. I did it through the website and it was assigned to someone. They showed up, helped out with the problem, and resolved the issue. But when they said the job was completed on their end, I was getting charged twice. For some reason, it appeared like I was submitting a new claim for them and it was trying to charge me again for the service and so I called American Home Shield. The problem was identified and it was resolved. AHS handled it pretty efficiently. I didn't feel like anything was wrong with the service that I got. For others that have purchased homes, I recommend using American Home Shield over other warranty services, particularly the ones that I've heard had worst issues and service. All the experiences I've had with AHS have been pretty good.

They gave me a “complimentary” refund of the $75 basis service charge. However, they held firm on their payment of $10 per pound of A/C coolant, which actually cost $80 pe pound, and I still had to pay the $70 difference. Customer service was good and responsive, but (in my opinion) the fact that they only would $10 per pound is still unfair. There are so many exclusions or limitations in the contract, and one will never know what they are until it comes time to file a claim. When I bought AHS, I expected my coverage to be complete, and not full of “loopholes”, as I suspect other customers expect when they buy. Based on the customer service response ONLY, you can change my rating to a 2 out of 5.

    Original Review: June 16, 2019

Updated on 07/03/2019: The CS rep was very friendly and helpful - no complaints at all with her service. She even refunded My $75.00 service charge. However, they still only paid $10 per pound for A/C coolant that cost $80.00 per pound. Thus, for 4 lbs my net cost was $280 (4 X $70). When I bought AHS, I had no idea that my A/C would not be fully covered. My biggest fear is my possible next claim. What other "gotchas" will come up then?

One never knows what service will be needed in the future, and I am so disappointed that there may other "exclusions" or "limits" that will still cost me tons of money out of pocket for which I thought I had coverage. For example, if my refrigerator goes out, will I be shocked to find out that my specific model number is excluded from coverage? I would gladly pay a higher premium to have full coverage with no "surprises" when I have a claim. Better disclosure on exclusions and limitations upfront would enable me and other to better evaluate their product before committing to purchase the coverage.

Original Review: We went on vacation for two weeks, and when we came home, the house was not cooling. And so, I contacted American Home Shield by email and they sent somebody out. And the timely response was good. But I am not happy with the fact that when I bought the warranty, I thought my air conditioning was covered. When the service guy came out, he had to put four pounds of coolant in the system. He told me that the coolant costs $80 a pound, and the only thing that AHS would pay was $10 a pound. So, I wound up paying 4 pounds times $70, which is $280 and the $75 service charge. And I'm not happy with that at all because I can't help it if it cost $80.

I filed my claim on email, and I had no problems with the claims representative. The problem I have is I think that the guy that came out here and did the work screwed me because I can't imagine how I can only get paid $10 a pound for something that costs $80 a pound. But I haven't called American Home Shield yet. I've been so frustrated. Our AC is working fine now, but I paid $75 for the service call, and I paid $70 a pound for 4 pounds, and all AHS paid for was $40. And that's not right.

Other than that, the service guy did a good job. He was here on time and did what he had to do. But when he came and told me that I owed him $70 a pound, and he would only pay $10 a pound, I was shocked. It was hot and we needed our air conditioner working so I didn't raise any cane with him at that point in time. I've been with AHS ever since I bought this house and to get screwed like that is not right.

I'm close to renewal for my contract with them, which should be the third year. And I don't want to leave them, but I think I got screwed by the guys that came out here. When I bought this house, I paid for AHS to be my home warranty deal, but I can't understand when I have a $350 claim that they only wound up paying $40 of it. If every time when I file a claim, they're gonna tell me that, "Okay. Your claim is $300 and you're gonna pay $270 of it. Plus, you gotta pay me $75 to handle the service call," it's absolutely a rip-off.

What happened was our son was drying his clothes one time, and the dryer had stopped about halfway through the drying cycle, which wasn't happening just the other day when I used it. And my wife used it about a few days later and she said the same thing. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent out an appliance guy, and he said it was the timer.

Contacting American Home Shield to get the dryer fixed was easy. I made a phone call and I spoke to a representative and they organized everything for me. They said that Crystal Appliance would call me within 24 hours. And, unfortunately, it was a weekend, so I made the first original on a Friday and I got a call on the Monday after that. They wanted to come more or less the following day. But, unfortunately, I couldn't do it. So, we scheduled a time around my schedule, and they were here when they said that they would be here.

The guy from Crystal Appliance was extremely helpful and knowledgeable person, extremely friendly, and he explained everything that he was going to do and that was what he did. He took down a part number and he said that he had to order the part, and he would give me a call as soon as the part comes in, and he was there the following day to install it. The dryer's working perfectly now.

They could be something like what I had and I feel like I paid him $100 just to say that it was down low on the outside. Right after that, my dryer went on the blank. It was completely gone. I didn’t call when the dryer went bad. I can go get a used dryer for $100 and put it back in there.

You have a lot of different appliances in the home and it’s cheaper to have AHS. You do get that one incident but for several incidents, it’s good to have. It can save you money in the long run if it’s for something bigger. It would really save me because it’s expensive to try to get a whole unit and have it come out of your pocket. In my case, it was a fairly new one but it could’ve been a unit. There was probably something the matter but we didn’t know what it was. The technician did and he was able to give my husband other tips about how to keep the furnace clean and told him about the filters. So, the young man who came out really did a good job.

American Home Shield sent St. Louis Sewer & Drain Cleaning Services for our slow drainage. They unclogged the stoppage in the bathtub. But the sink was out of their scope of job and it was a pre-existing condition. Nevertheless, they were good. So the drain for the tub works fine now and made it more convenient.

I took "advantage of" AHS's $75 central air conditioning "tune-up". The technician said it checked out OK. Nothing wrong. A week later I turned it on and got hot air. The company AHS contracted could not come to diagnose for 6 days. He then said the entire unit (everything) had to be replaced and he would have to work up an estimate and submit it to AHS. That seemed reasonable but what did not seem reasonable at that time was he said I would have to pay $2,000-$3,000 to replace the lines and electrical. We are on social security and did not expect such a large additional amount but I would see. It is now into week three. The contractor does not answer his phone, his mailbox is full so you cannot leave a message. He does not respond to AHS's emails. That is the same response I and AHS got every time. This has been going on for two weeks and several calls to AHS.

When I called today, the person at AHS said the contractor submitted the diagnoses yesterday and I would have to wait ANOTHER 24 hours for AHS to respond. If it took 2 weeks to get the diagnosis, how long will it take them to actually fix it? My wife and I are senior citizens. I am 74 years old and am handicapped from a stroke. This whole process has been going on for three weeks now. Ridiculous. I tried to get AHS to assign a different contractor last week but every time I talked to AHS it was wait another 24 hours. What recourse do I have if this is not resolved quickly? I am posting this any place I can find.

I spoke to seven different representatives of AHS and their customer service level was hit and miss. But submitting the claim was fairly easy and my AC problem has been resolved. There was a lot of back and forth between American Home Shield and the contractor doing the actual work so, I constantly had to call both companies to find out the status of the work order. I couldn't get a straight answer from anybody and everybody kept pointing the finger at the other in terms of where the claim was and its process.

And it wasn't done in a very timely manner. It took over a week to finally get everything said and done, with constant follow-ups on my part. Then, I did not receive a call from American Home Shield to let me know what the total cost was going to be and having information in a timely manner would be wonderful. I had to schedule the appointment with the installer prior to that, just to get this thing moving forward. So, that was my struggle. Other than that, the air conditioning is working better than before since the repair. But the contractor put a hole in my ceiling, so now, I'm waiting for them to come out and repair that. Their customer service is also poor.

My AC and heater, together, is an old unit and it went out. I got the company that was servicing my AC unit for a year. They came and worked on it. But a month later, the problem seemed to reoccur. They found out something had to be replaced. So we called American Home Shield and we’re going through the process right now. American Home Shield sent out Coaches HVAC and the contractor came out the other day to install the part. He also checked the vents where the air comes out. They did a test and it was supposed to be 15%, and I guess it passed. But when the air blows, it loses coldness.

The contractor said the unit probably still has to be repaired. There's a little issue on the AC unit on the top of my roof and they might come back this week or next week. Something needs to be replaced but American Home Shield won’t cover it. That’s the only thing that sucks about it. Coaches can do it for me but they’re gonna charge me and it’s quite expensive. So I’m gonna do what I can. It’s also taking some time because one guy came and tested it then they gotta do paperwork and send that in. I’m waiting for their call to see if the part is gonna be replaced. But so far, they’re doing good. The AC is blowing way better. I love this unit. American Home Shield has also been doing great although sometimes, when I call to have something replaced, some people tell me one thing then some people in the same company tell me different stuff. They should be on the same page.

There was also one time that my toilets got a leak and it messed up my ceiling but American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it. I got into a big argument with the lady because it was secondary damage and I can’t understand why American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it. If it was 10 years ago, I would understand that. But the water has to go somewhere and it went on top of my garage. I got my toilets back-to-back and the leak come from upstairs. Something broke in the toilet so the water overflowed and drained all night. We were asleep. When I got up in the morning, I checked and went on to my garage. There was water flowing in my garage. It was a mess.

My cabinets got all damaged and soaked. I had to replace my cabinets. I actually did my whole garage and American Home Shield wouldn't cover that. The contractor that came out ripped the sheetrock and checked where the leak was coming from. I got a big hole in my ceiling and I had to pay somebody to come and fix it. I wasn’t happy with it. I wanted to speak to a manager, who was supposed to call me back, but I never received a call.

After contacting American Home Shield for a claim, they open up a ticket and set it up, so somebody comes out and does some work. Unfortunately, it’s never same day unless you call back multiple times and escalate it, and they try and try and try. But they get somebody out there as soon as possible. Usually, I submit my claims online, but then I have to call because it’s not conducive. It’s almost as if they direct you online to avoid having to have you call. When you call, it’s always waiting like half an hour to get somebody on the line. But once you file a claim online, they tell you if someone will get in contact with you within 24 hours. I’d used them because I had a toilet overflow in the house and there was water everywhere. And their response was, “Someone will get back to you within 24 hours.” That's not what I paid a warranty for. I paid for if there's a emergency-type situation, they need to be able to expedite that.

American Home Shield needs to look at the services they offer and figure out a better way to assign task based on priority and needs. What if it’s 100 degrees out and some of the air conditioning breaks and there’s a nine-month-old baby in the house? Waiting for days for someone to come out is not acceptable. So, if it was my company, I would look at the severity of the issue. I know everyone thinks and wants their issue to be prioritized as best as they can, but AHS has to look at certain situations. A toilet flooding into a house causing more damage and ruining floors and drywall and molding creates a bigger issue. So, if you’re paying for a warranty for a home and they are covering these things, their goal should be to minimize risk and bigger issues. Else, there's no point in having a home warranty.

Other than that, American Home Shield sends the same company, Sirius Plumbing and Cooling, most of the time. Those guys are great. And I would recommend them to anyone. Recently, I had an issue with the AC unit. After looking that up, it looks like it had a piece or component that needed to be replaced. The Sirius folks always do a great job.

I walked into my guest room, which is a room that's not used often, and I found that my rugs were all wet. I looked around and there's a drain from the AC unit that is right in the linen closet of that room. It was wet too. I put in a work order for it with American Home Shield. When I talked to them, I never had any issues. Customer service was always polite and professional. Heart of Texas AC was their contracted company for this claim and they came out right away.

I bought this house two years ago and I'm finding a lot of slipshod fixes that were done prior to my purchase. What was previously done was they threw some putty on the crack of an elbow of the drain line. As soon as the young technician added water into the drain line, it just started shooting up. He fixed that. But I was told that American Home Shield doesn't cover secondary damage so I had to get restoration people out here to pull the pad of the carpet and put all the humidifiers in here to dry out the carpet. I then had to get somebody else in to reinstall the pad and the carpet. Other than that, I am very pleased that any time that I talked to or had to deal with Heart of Texas AC, they are fantastic. I am also very glad that I decided to have American Home Shield.

The first time the contractor came, the diagnosis was the valve of the shower, but they said that’s not the problem. I don’t think the guy was genuinely professional on his diagnosis. I thought tried to cover up the first time they did because six months ago, the same issue happened and they came in. They said they changed the valve, but still, six months later, it was leaking. I was not happy with their approach to the problem-solving. This second time they came in, they tried to externalize the issue and it was the wrong diagnosis.

The main problem is the pressure regulator outside the house. A second opinion came in and they disputed that. The water pressure to the house is like less than 80 psi and they said there's nothing wrong with the pressure. So I scheduled to AHS again, but this time, the contractor said they came in. They tried to knock and they said nobody was in the house so I need to reschedule but I didn't get any call. My experience was not great.

We just purchased a house in March and we called American Home Shield to submit a claim for the hot water heater. They sent someone out and we paid the $75 for the service call. This was on a Thursday and the contractor said he was gonna try to order a hot water heater for us and get it in Friday or Saturday. He couldn’t do it so, we got a text message that they were coming on Monday. So, we thought that we were getting our hot water heater on Monday but we didn’t. AHS sent another company and they wanted another $75. We were not going to pay the second $75. Then, we were told that $440 was needed for modifications. I priced hot water heaters and I could get one for $400. So, I figured we would cash out with AHS and do it ourselves. However, it had to be someone licensed to do it, so either way, we were suckered and we paid the full price.

We're still out our $440 where we were not supposed to. We have a one-year warranty on the home and we were nine days without our hot water. It was kinda like we were stiff armed into going with AHS. Otherwise, we would still probably be with our hot water. When the lady from AHS called me, I was complaining about the $440. She was complaining about the company and she said that they are the ones that I should go after. But it was AHS that sent them to me. We’re very dissatisfied and I would not ever renew my contract with them.

We noticed it a month after moving in. I did the claim online and American Home Shield sent Hotshot Appliance. We were frustrated with them. They came out and only spent a minute in the house. They opened the door to the washer and said that they needed a part and then left. It took about a month and a half for them to get it. Yesterday, when they came out, it was two different guys. So far, the washer is okay, but it’s been a day.

If I have to call back for another repair, I would like to use a different company. Also, they weren’t very friendly. Usually, if they’re in your house, I’d expect they would ask to use paper towels and things like that, but they just did. We had somebody re-key the house when we first moved in and the re-key guy was good. The contractor for the AC was wonderful too and so, we’ve had a great experience so far. It was just this one contractor with the washer and I would prefer AHS use someone else.

We’ve had multiple calls with American Home Shield for the refrigerator in the last seven months. We first called for the freezer. Everything was defrosting in the freezer. And then the temperature started going up in the refrigerator as well. It wasn’t keeping things cold. The contractor put a part in and they thought that was gonna fix it, but it didn’t. So we called back, and the guy came and said he connected some wires incorrectly. So he fixed the wires and he said that should do it, but it didn’t. American Home Shield sent somebody else out and they put Freon in it. But that didn't take care of it either. So we had another call, and then they replaced another part. We thought it was okay, but we kept an eye on it and put a thermometer in it.

Last week, my parents visited and they put some water in the refrigerator. They put some water bottles in, and they used to freeze overnight. But it was completely liquid in the morning. So it is still an ongoing issue. At one point, they thought it was a different issue. But some time had gone by and we were hoping that we wouldn't have to keep paying the co-pay for it. It would be nice if we wound up having to do a replacement, and we got refunded the co-pay, so we could at least pay it on the appliance already. At this point, my husband and I have looked into other warranties, so we are looking to possibly switch.

During this claim, my husband called American Home Shield and asked them not to send anybody from Greenway, because they don’t seem to be able to take care of the problem. We always have to call and get somebody else to come out. We’ve never been happy when Greenway has come out. But the other people that came out seemed to be able to take care of this situation. They’ve always been nice and helpful.

We’ve also had our washing machine serviced and our air-conditioning recently. I was a little surprised with the air-conditioning. When the guy came out, we had paid the service call. But he had to put Freon on the air-conditioner, and we had to pay about $400 out of pocket. It seems to be working okay, but that was a very large expense that we weren’t expecting.

I called AHS to have my outside AC unit fixed and the representative that I spoke with to get the thing started was fine. But the representatives after that were no good. American Home Shield supposedly got a bill for two items to go into the repair, but the repair service people did not install them. Instead, they installed a new unit and since American Home Shield only paid for the two items, I ended up paying for the brand new unit. I also ended up paying for the whole condenser, installation, and the whole works. Now somebody is in trouble as far as I’m concerned.

The contractor told American Home Shield to buy these two pieces then they told me to spend $2000 to buy a whole unit. So, I don't know what happened, but I wasn’t given an option. The other thing is, the original unit that was being replaced was a heat pump and I wasn’t asked whether I wanted a new heat pump or whether I wanted some other garbage because now, since they installed this here, I’m gonna pay extra because they didn't install a heat pump. So, my cost for heating the house is gonna be outside the limit. Also, I couldn't get the warranty from the vendor that installed the thing. Neither can I get a detailed bill, so I don't know what I paid for. With this, I'm not ready to recommend AHS to anybody because I have no idea who’s doing what. It looks like they're paying for some garbage and making sure that I pay for the whole thing.

Up until now I have had fair to good experiences dealing with AHS and their contractors. Everything from good fast service with explanations of what went wrong or my a part had to be replaced (+) to calling at Friday noon (I didn't plan the breakdown) before a 3 day weekend and getting told I would be contacted within the next 24 business hours and it took them til Thursday to reply. But today really pissed me off. I have a stopped up laundry sink. The contractor arrived early (+) within the given time frame and got right to it. After several tries to snake the drain thru the sink he explained to me that the blockage was in the down pipe that the sink drain fed into. And that this pipe would have to be snaked from the roof. But due to liability issues his firm did not do roof work. He said he would write his report and AHS would probably send someone else. I thanked him & he left.

I called AHS to request that they not waste my time with a firm that could not get the job done. If he had to order a part or get a special tool or machine I could see that, but not finishing the job because of liability issues on the roof should have been cause not to send that firm in the 1st place. After explaining this to the 1st operator, getting transferred and explaining everything again I get told none of their contractors do roof work! I ask, "Then what happens now? Do you give me credit/voucher and I find my on own firm to finish the job or do you give me a refund or what?" She (operator) said they did not give vouchers and the service fee was non-refundable. I said "Gee, thanks for nothing" and hung up. Luckily (or not) today was my day off so I'm "only" out the $75. So now it's off to the laundromat and try to figure my next move. I'd only give 1/2 a star if I could!

After suffering a failure of my refrigerator on a Saturday, I thought no problem I have. Home warranty. After calling and being told it would be at least Monday before someone would be available. When the repair tech arrived and inspected the refrigerator he stated he was not sure what was wrong but would order a new circuit board to see if that would work. Part arrived Wednesday and tech installed. That did not fix the problem so the tech then stated that it might be possible the fan motors and other parts had failed. He said he would order and try to see if that would work. I checked with AHS on Friday and was told that the parts would not be available for another two weeks. When I asked what I could do to not be without a refrigerator for three weeks I was told I would just have to wait. Terrible response.

I've been with AHS for approx 18 months and have had approx 7 phone interactions with them to date. ALL phone interactions appear to have been with an overseas outsourced agent. ALL phone interactions have been EXTREMELY difficult due to language barrier issues. ALL phone interactions have been lengthier than they should have been due to the aforementioned language barrier issues.

If you ask the most rudimentary of questions, they MIGHT be able to answer them (with time and off-line assistance). If you ask detailed questions, forget about it, it's not happening. I understand the logic behind and some of the reasons for outsourcing labor, but it also comes at a potential negative impact/cost. Outsourcing will be 'value added' from an overhead perspective, for sure. But if a negative correlation b/n outsourcing and customer satisfaction can be determined, is that value added really worth it? Thanks for listening, JSB [soon-to-be Former Customer].

They keep saying they are waiting for paperwork but when I contact the vendor they tell me they aren’t able to connect with the insurance. The service is ridiculous. Their agents just read off a script and are of absolutely no help. I asked for escalation and they tell me they have no supervisor. I pay my monthly payments on time for what? All I have gotten is horrible service and no help. I have told them I have kids and elderly parents at home but clearly it means nothing. My request has been placed for 7 days and I have called them over 15 times. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They are useless and just take your money but offer no help. I will personally be switching coverage ASAP.

It was about eight days from when I submitted the claim before they were able to make it out because that was the first available appointment time. American Home Shield is a little hard to deal with. It seems like pulling teeth sometimes to get them to do stuff. The first time, it was for air conditioning, which never got resolved after them sending three different companies out. They paid us a lump sum to go ahead and have it replaced by what we wanted to because they kept sending out somebody to fix it, and they just weren’t fixing it. But the plumber they sent out most recently was excellent. The dishwasher repair guy was very good as well. Overall, we've been satisfied with AHS.

The people at American Home Shield gives really good care. Usually, I'm able to have a technician within the same week as when I made the request. We recently made a claim for the Maytag washing machine that we have, and ProServ came out, took a look at it and said there was nothing that could be done to repair it. With the warranty repair, they went ahead and gave us a selection of different types of washing machines we could choose to replace it. We were very happy with the selection that they chose as the primary one ‘cause it had all the main types of things that we would want to replace with, including some of them being upgrades. They arranged in about two business days with their delivery company, and they were able to drop it in within 15 minutes of when they arrived.

Submitting claims at American Home Shield is usually quick. The only time we’ve ever had an issue was when it came to a dryer or washing machine. The Sears technicians that they had first sent over wanted to charge us directly for the call instead of going through the American Home Shield business, which was surprising. But ProServ was really good. The technician liked to communicate and text, so instead of having to just wait at home, I could get a call, take off from work and be able to meet him there instead of having a very long window.

They have one contractor for appliances who’s not allowed on the property, and it took me four times requesting to make sure that they didn’t send them out. I did a lot of referrals to them. So, I hope they would hear what I have to say. I refer clients to them daily.

Everything's fine with American Home Shield. They're always pretty prompt at getting back to us and letting us know what company will be coming out. Depending on how much coverage you want from American Home Shield, they take care of it. They're very good when you call or go online to contact them. As long as you've got your customer number, they care of you. So far, the claims have mainly been for AC because this house is older and has a couple of units. We've replaced one already and we've got two more. When they start acting up, then we have to call and get someone to come out and check them.

As for the contractors, everyone's fine. The one fellow that has come out most often from American Comfort Heating & Cooling has been a fellow named Charlie, and he's been great. He's always prompt and friendly. He checks whatever it is we need, lets us know what's going on, and gives us the recommendation. For 1 issue, we had to have a thermostat replaced 'cause it quit working all-together. We had them out here today for a project that we had contracted with them about 2 weeks ago to put an additional register and ducting in one of our bedrooms to help the cooling in that room. The fellow that came out today, David, was a very nice gentleman. He was in and out within an hour and took care of everything that we needed.

Normally, we call American Home Shield to submit our claims. Often, we don’t really know if what we’re calling about would be covered or not. And so it’s nice to talk to a person, because usually, also, we don’t wanna wait a long time. We’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time, and back when we started, we've filed claims mostly by phone. And then they got the computer system set up where you could type in what the problem is. But since I don’t understand a lot of these things, I always like to talk to somebody.

We recently had a plumbing claim for our two bathrooms. It was the toilet from one and a sink on the other one. And they were on the same sewer line. So the contractor accessed it from the outside wall and put a thing through. He went a certain distance, and he could tell he had found a clog or something, and it went through that. And then it went further and he got it all, and it’s been great! The contractor was very nice when he got here. My husband was here and they spent the time together. He was very professional and he had nice clothes on. I put their company in my phone. If we wanted to change our faucets and do things that I know aren’t covered by American Home Shield, we would use them. We were that impressed. Since the repair, things are working wonderfully! Now, I can use the toilet of the master bathroom instead of going to the other side of the house to use the powder room. So it’s a lot nicer! I'm very satisfied.

It said it would take up to 72 hours, which was not okay. And so, I called them and asked if there was any way to put a rush on the claim because our whole house was out of water. They called right away.

By the next morning, we had a call from the Perry’s guy. So, it was overnight the next night and they came that next afternoon. But they rushed it because I called instead of just putting it online. I've been with AHS for four years and everyone that comes out has been very nice. It’s been a very positive experience. I was having a lot of heat upstairs and I couldn't figure out why it was so hot up there. The first time, it was just a little warm. Then it got unbearable so I realized that there was a problem with the fan. I had been calling American Home Shield about it and they kept sending this company called Greenway. I had the worst experience with that. Greenway shafted me over and over. If it looked like it was something that was gonna take some work or something to fix, they said that my warranty didn't cover it. Then, I'm out of $75 which is my day's pay, and nothing was done. And they're the only company. It seems like they're getting all the business and American Home Shield doesn't have anybody else to service this area.

I kept telling American Home Shield if they could have somebody at least show me where the on and off switch is when the contractor comes out. They'd come out and say it's a different part. They nickel and dimed me a couple of times. When the original guy came, he told me that it wasn't a part of my air conditioning unit call so I needed to put in another call for somebody to come out.

When I call the 800 number, they charge me whatever the copay is. They take down what's going on to the best of my knowledge of what I can tell them. I try not to go to the website because I'd rather talk to them and find out what's going on so that I will know what to expect. My hours are so erratic when it comes to being available. I have to always have somebody come in the later evening if they're gonna come by.

Eventually, this last time, come to find out, the other ceiling fan had also went out so that was the reason that Beacon Hill Electric had to come. The electrician came at the end of my day. He was a little bit late. He didn't do the downstairs plug I got a shortage in, but he did do the ceiling fans. It was like he was doing the work, but it was obvious it was a time issue. The first time, he was just like, "It's at the end of the day, I won't have time. And by the time I get the part and everything, it'll be too late." I ended up having to take another day off for him to come and do it so that kinda got under my skin a little bit.

But for the most part, once he got here and did the work, he was real good and fast. He kept his appointment. I didn't have to call and remind him. He didn't call and give me a confirmation, but he was here when he was supposed to. He told me he'd be back, and he came back. So, that means something to me when people keep their word. He was real informative. He explained to me that the motor had went bad. He did give me some insight and showed me where there was a crack on the insulation around the edge. He was showing me a picture. He said that I may wanna fill that in or either have somebody come out.

Beacon Hill Electric has been excellent but American Home Shield needs to do better. They should pull away from Greenway. I'm still thinking about throwing some rocks. I'm pissed. I coulda went and bought the pipe and put it in myself. It's a 24-dollar piece and they said American Home Shield didn't cover it but then took $75 out of me. I was gonna cancel my warranty just because of them.

We noticed from the drain pipe of the the air conditioning unit inside the home that it was not draining fluid. We also noticed that the brand new furnace was getting water in it. Water was coming from the fact that LA Contractors who had put in our furnace in February through American Home Shield improperly installed it. When they put the furnace in, they did not level the cooling coil when they had to do the modification from the old furnace to the new furnace. Because of that, it put water in the furnace. It also caused the air-conditioning not to function properly.

We submitted it as an air-conditioning issue because it really was. The rep said that we would hear something the next day. It was 90-some degrees here in Cincinnati and it was a total nightmare because we had to continuously call back and try to get people over to get things rectified. We had a major, major problem. I am a CEO of a company, and I did not have the time to stand on this claim. I was more than frustrated to be without air for over 10 days. I’m asthmatic and I’m raising a five-year-old grandson who is also severely asthmatic.

There is only 1 technician that American Home Shield has through LA Contractors that does home warranties. You’re at his mercy when he can get to you. That’s the first problem. We’ve had problems with him when he installed our furnace and we did not want him back. He came back the next day and was pretty sure that it was not something he had done. It just so happened that I couldn’t turn the air on to show him what it was doing. When he came there, it would take hours for the air conditioning unit to actually cool enough for him to see the issue. So he said, “Well, run it, and after American Home Shield sends someone there to put air-conditioning, get back and let us know.”

AirMax came out and that young man ran like a chicken with his head cut off. Our air conditioning unit is an aged unit. We told them that when we called it in. The young man said that he couldn’t work on it because it didn’t have the safety features that he required. His boss told him that he could do it, but he decided that he wasn’t gonna do it so he ran. This went to hell in a handbasket and came back and went through again.

When Fast Response came out, the young man was excellent. He went inside my furnace to try to figure out what the problem was. He took pictures and sent me those pictures to my phone. He explained everything to me. When LA Contractors came back out, they tried to dispute that the air-conditioning had an issue and that they had improperly installed the unit. So I pulled up my trusty cellphone and pulled up the pictures that the young man from Fast Response gave me and showed them. When they went in and measured, it was off by some centimeters, but it made a big difference in the air conditioner. They had to come back and say, “We’re sorry. It is off.” But they came upstairs before they did and said, “We hate this big-time companies right there, ‘cause they don’t know what they’re doing. We didn’t improperly install this unit.” When they had to come back up and say that they did, I was so grateful to have those pictures. So Fast Response, in my book, did their job above and beyond.

If the process itself was smooth, American Home Shield would be an excellent tool to have as a home owner but what we have to go through to even achieve a level of satisfaction is unbelievably hard. I have mixed feelings and I’m really am leaning towards cancelling our home warranty. Livid is not even a word that would describe the level of disgust that I have with American Home Shield.

The water heater is leaking water. I was told that it was not up to code. The contractor was saying that we would have to run it through American Home Shield and see what they cover and what needs to be done. But AHS doesn't cover things and we're gonna be out of $500 if we go through them. What they're charging is ridiculous. They’re also probably charging more than if I go through a regular person and even though we can get the parts cheaper, it has to go through them. The water heater has to be repaired eventually and more likely, AHS will replace it. But I can still get it all cheaper by going through a different route. The other thing that I didn't like was with my refrigerator claim. My refrigerator costs $2,000 more than what they've given me. I was really shocked. I had a choice between black or white and that was it. Now, I’m really looking for somebody else.

When I requested to speak to a supervisor, I was told that the supervisor would not speak with me and refused to give me her name. I was on the phone a long time trying to get answers, and was put on hold for a longer period of time than actual conversation with the representative.
