I call American Home Shield to submit claims and it has been great with their reps the last couple of times. They quickly get to the problem and work with me to get the vendors that I've had in the past, which is a big plus. In the very beginning, I had a lot of problems with technicians. I almost canceled my account. But now that I can use the same technicians, I don't have that problem. Most recently, I had a problem with my attic fans and Electrical Service Professionals came out and fixed them. Other than that, my only complaint is the big jump on the deductible, which is $75.

We have regular maintenance done on our air conditioner. Our AC is all electric so it does both the AC and the heat. The guy that came in and did the regular maintenance said there were some issues with it and the unit needed to be replaced. My wife did a claim online for it with American Home Shield. The guy they sent to check it seemed very professional and very courteous. He said that the AC didn't need to be replaced. He checked temperatures but he didn't do any kind of repairs or service to the unit. He said it didn't need anything. He took time to explain some stuff to us because we showed him the report that the maintenance guys had left. He tried to explain what some of the things on the report meant and why he didn't think that that unit needed to be replaced. He gave a good explanation.
We’ve had some things just like this one where somebody says something needs replacing and the American Home Shield guy says it doesn't. In this case, I don't really know who to believe because I know the maintenance guys were probably paid to try and sell me something. And I know the guys AHS sends out are being paid to not have us do anything. I’m not really sure if I need to get a third opinion or what I need to do. But I don't want the AC going out on us in the middle of a hot summer or in the middle of a cold winter and then having to deal with it. Other than that, we like American Home Shield in general and we’d probably recommend it to a friend.

Every now and then, I prefer to go online and order my repairs from American Home Shield. But every now and then, Cote Mechanical comes up on my list as the repair people and then I have to call to get it changed because we had issues with them 11 years ago. It took weeks before we ever got the issue straightened out and AHS finally got somebody from other company to come and fix our issue. We don't want Cote Mechanical back in our house and I can't believe American Home Shield has them as repair people.
Most recently, we had issues on two different air conditioners. The man this time tried to put on there that we will not accept Cote Mechanical. Affordable Heat and Air came out and they know our equipment well. They're fine and they do a good job of taking care of it and letting me know what's going on. They worked on our AC units and they just got the part in for the second air conditioner and they're fixing it.

When I had a piping problem in my basement and there was water leak, I couldn't submit the claim online because the system said that I had a money due. So I had to call and submit it through the phone. I reached someone in the Philippines because it was at night but the hold wasn't too long. I explained to her that it couldn't be that case. I really appreciated the customer service. She was a highlight. She was very nice and went out of her way to try to help me and put me in a couple of brief holds. I had to be on hold for half an hour in the past, but this was not bad.
The contractor, Pete, is a good guy. I like him. In fact, I had requested him because he has come to my home and worked before. Last year, end of the year, I had a water leak and he sent his son. His son came in one evening and couldn't diagnose it. He took some pictures and talked to his dad. They decided it was my refrigerator and he went away. The refrigerator person came and every time, I had been charged $100 fee which we shouldn't have been.
The refrigerator person said, "I haven't seen something like this in my 47 years." So he went away and I had a lot of water damage. Eventually, it went back to plumbing. This time, Pete came back and he fixed it in five minutes. He knew exactly what it was. So this time, when I called in, I was given a couple of choices. I asked that they give it to PHD and send Pete and not his son. Pete came in and he knew exactly what to do. He fixed it in a few minutes.
I like American Home Shield that's why I stayed with them. I've been fortunate each time I've had an issue that I have had a backup plan. When my boiler went out in February of last year and I had no heat and hot water, fortunately, that was the week where the temperature went up to 60 degrees. So I was fortunate this time that when the water started to leak, I was able to put a bucket in there. Because if I call a contractor, they could have come and fixed it right away. With American Home Shield, I have to wait. But it's been overall not bad. I'm happy.

My food crusher thing in the sink wasn’t working, and so a service guy came and he looked at it and he turned it on and off. Then he changed the switch thing on the wall, and he fixed it. The guy that came out was a plumber and he said that it was electrical situation and that he didn’t deal with it. And so, AHS was going to send somebody. And it was the holiday and so, after the holiday, the girl contacted me and scheduled it for a couple of days after that. I called American Home Shield to file the claim for it and dealing with the rep was fantastic. She was very nice and very kind to me. Overall, AHS is absolutely nice, very respectful, and very knowledgeable.

The water dispenser in the fridge is corroded and has mildew and nothing comes out. Also, the ice maker doesn't make ice because it freezes the pipe in the back of the tube. Then, our vegetable and food drawers keep freezing everything, no matter what temperature I try to set. I would lower the temperature on the refrigerator, in order to not to make it frozen, but we would get frozen cucumber, tomato, and everything. It's so annoying. Also, the clothes dryer does not dry. We filed a claim to American Home Shield and it's been going on about a month. I've had so many people come and nothing is working. The contractors keep coming and saying nothing is wrong. Maybe this time, I'll put wet clothes in the dryer and let them see if it dries. This is ridiculous. Something is just not right. We've had to call in about at least four times in order to get it done.
I was trying to call Cooper Appliances, the contractor, to find out everything. I have the number and after two rings, it will stop. I tried 10 times. I thought maybe it was the wrong number. Then, I Googled them and they have the same number. But then, the gentleman I spoke to a while ago gave me another number. He said their high tech technician will be coming in a couple of days and they will call us.
There was another company and the tech never bothered. He called two times and when we got his call, he would say he will be calling AHS. Finally, AHS sent Cooper Appliances. I think they are a good company. In the past, they have worked and fixed a few things and I thought they were good. But now, I don't know what's going on. If it cannot be fixed, they need to replace. That's in the agreement. I've been with American Home Shield for almost five years now and I've never had any problems. But right now, I'm very disappointed. I'm satisfied with them overall, though.

We just had a garage door worked on just this morning through AHS. I filed the claim online and the process was excellent. It was a very smooth experience. All we do is just put in, and then it just takes care of it. I was also impressed by the professionalism, friendliness and timeliness of the contractor. He came when he said he was gonna come and did what he said he was gonna do. I'm happy to have the warranty of AHS and I'd definitely buy it again.

The website's easy to access when you have a problem and the response is quick. Whenever I make a claim, American Home Shield calls me and schedules an appointment right away. One time, my dryer wasn't heating up and the knob wasn't turning. It wasn't shutting off while it was spinning too, so I requested for it to get fixed, and the company that came out determined that it was something on the breaker box. The tech went out there, moved the knob, and the dryer started heating up again. That same day I noticed that the stove top was turning off and the dryer would stop heating. The breaker was connected with the dryer and the stove top together, so that was causing it to jump.
I put in the request for electrical to come out and when I told the tech what it was doing, he replaced the M breaker. Since then, dryer's been working fine and the stove top, nothing has jumped. Also, someone came back to replace the sensor on the door of the dryer so that when you open it, it will shut off. All in all, those two guys that came out (different companies) got straight to the point, and they took care of what was needed. They got it done.

I've had American Home Shield for 10 years. The price has gone up about $10 a month over the course of those years, but with the exception of last summer when I had a plumbing issue that they denied, which I felt they should have paid for, I’ve never had any problems at all with them. I had no hot water so I called them, and they sent Robbie out the next day. He came out the day after ‘cause I wasn’t able to coordinate my schedule with him, but he fixed it while he was here and all was well within 30 minutes. He has been out here before and he’s familiar with my home, so I always feel confident with him. I had been taking cold showers for two days, so it was nice to have my hot water back.

There was some mix-up with the appointment time but American Home Shield interceded and got the Mechanical Contractor out there. Once the guy came, everything was fine and professional. He had to replace the part in the furnace which was the relay switch. He resolved it in less than 40 minutes. The only thing that I did not like about AHS is that when I made the appointment, I gave them my Discover card, but they took it out of my debit card and I don’t know how they did that without my consent.

I usually have the air conditioner checked every year, and the initial company said that there was something wrong with the compressor. I called American Home Shield and they wouldn't use the same company. So, I filed the claim again and the tech from the other company came out and said that wasn't what was wrong with it. He replaced something and now the AC works really well. I recommend AHS a lot to new homeowners.

We noticed there was water coming out on the bottom underneath the cabinets. We called American Home Shield, and they sent out Crown Plumbing. They contacted me almost right after I submitted the claim. It was pretty quick. And then we set up an appointment. They came out, found out what the problem was, and then they had to order the garbage disposal. As soon as it came in, they gave me a call, and we scheduled somebody else to come out and and they replaced the garbage disposal. I have brand new garbage disposal, so it’s good. I was very happy with my experience. It was very easy, quick and professional service.

I have had two claims with AHS recently. One was for a plumbing issue and one was for a microwave issue. We had a toilet that was continuously running, and they had to replace some piece inside the tank to stop that. And one has the little chains turning that was too long. So, they adjusted that and did some tweaking to prevent additional excess running. And it was great. But it was lengthy time to get to some rep.
I did the plumbing claim online via their website which was nice and easy because I could select two bathrooms that needed service and make the one payment on that. For the microwave issue, I had to call, and the hold time was excessive. But once I had spoken to a rep, she was very helpful. The contractor was also excellent. He was very professional and polite. He arrived on time. I liked the ability to track when he was coming to the house and the text messaging that I received. Once he got here, he was nice, polite and professional. He got the job done.
The toilet has sounded more smooth and quieter. It's definitely nice to have no water running as well as cost efficient because now I don't have to worry about my water bill too much. AHS have to improve the phone response time at American Home Shield. That would be the number one. But for the most part, everything else was really smooth and worked very well.

I called AHS for a claim and their reps were cool. The contractors came a little later. They had to contact somebody first to get them out, for the availability. The contractor came out twice. But the first time he checked the fan, he thought it was the capacitor, but that wasn’t the reason why it wasn’t turning. It was the motor because I pushed it with a stick and got it to turn. He came back the second time and changed the motor. It has been great since then.
But I do have reservations with my pool pump, because that pump doesn’t feel like it’s efficient. It doesn’t work like my other pump that was put on there. And the people came back out, and checked it, and replaced the filter and it runs fine. But after a week, it slows back down. It starts doing the same thing. Nevertheless, I am very satisfied with AHS. I’ve already got a home buyer on there. I bought them the warranty, and they’re happy with it.

I don't like how AHS process things. The amount we pay every year goes up. The previous time they came out, we gave a check and now, we have to pay the service before the serviceman comes out. I don't have a problem with that but the issue is that they take our money. They're working for us but they have contractors that come out and do the work.
This last time that we had a problem was with our air conditioner was not giving cold air. My husband filed a claim to American Home Shield online and they called us and told us that someone would be out there. It took a few days for Comfort First Heating and Cooling to come. It's summer time and everybody’s air is going out. We're aware of that. We are customers that do not call for every little thing. We've been with them going on five years and I think they can count on both hands how many times we called. So, they’ve made money off of us for five years and we have not got five years worth of service or the money that we paid them.
The guy came out and he was excellent. He told us he needed to order a part and that it will be in in a couple of days. The part came in and a young lady from the contracting company called me and told us their availability. They gave us a day and told us the guy would be out here between 12 o'clock and 4 o'clock and we told them that’s fine. It was Friday on Memorial Weekend and they called back and asked if they could come at a later time. We said it was fine. We had enough time to go out and do our shopping. We were in BJ’s doing our grocery shopping when we got a call saying that the guy would be at our house in 15 minutes.
If you set a time to come, that’s the time that you have to come. We were nice enough that when they called, we said that they can come at a later time. Then, they told us that the person is gonna be there in half an hour and if we're not there, we would have to wait for the next available time that they have. My husband and I had to leave in the middle of our shopping and leave all the groceries in the cart. That was not nice. I called for someone to call me back, but no one ever called me back. So, American Shield is getting a bad name with me because of the people that they contracted with. Other than that, everything is operating fine now.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

The tech really knew his stuff as well as the part and part numbers. He was experienced and he knew the unit well. He was very courteous, too. AHS was timely as well and very accommodating. Initially, they had to get a part but they couldn't get the part, so they replaced the stove which was wonderful. And when the first stove got delivered by the delivery company, they opened it up and it was damaged. So, they swapped it out and got me a new stove. And AHS followed up with me and the delivery company. Then, the guys who brought the new unit installed it and they did a good job.

We had an issue where our air conditioner was not blowing cool air into the house. I had to call American Home Shield for that claim because there's a problem with my account. My new contract doesn’t link to my old email account. The reps were fine. But there was an issue where I had to call and needed to speak to numerous people because they couldn’t seem to understand what I was asking. This happened for a different claim - an electrical one.
Usually, AHS' contractors were pretty good. We dealt with a few. There was one that had a hard time coming out so AHS had to reassign our case to a different servicing provider. For my AC claim, AHS sent out SJR Heating & Cooling. Their guy came on a Thursday. He found out that something was wrong with the wiring and he fixed it. He also said that our coolant was low so I paid the additional $50 to help him fill that up. Our AC has been working since then. Most of the time, I've had good experiences with AHS other than the thing for our electrical that I had a hard time since I had to call numerous times to get the authorization.

Fact: it’s 99 F w/ 100% humidity here in Ga. Inside it’s unbearable w/ sick occupants (not that that should be a consideration). They were called Tue of this week when A/C quit working. They wanted to send back the contractor that had came out a few weeks ago to add Freon but this guy was busy and said it would be two days. Keep in mind the temps. They are to be like this for rest of week. They then gave the number to a contractor that doesn’t work for them. So this made us go through a whole night and today without cool air.
They refuse to authorize another contractor even though they said they would if they couldn’t get the first guy to come today. However a F/U call to them revealed they had changed their mind and told us to wait until tomorrow or go to a family member house or go to hotel but they won’t cover cost. This is unacceptable service and a lawsuit just might be filed due to breach of contract and negligence of having someone stay in such a uninhabitable dwelling and reneging on their offer and contractual obligations. One customer rep named Nell was so rude that when she was asked to put her supervisor on phone she hung up.

I have been a member with AHS for over 15 years! I had absolutely no problems with them until about 3 years ago. I thought the issue I had 3 years ago was a mistake and after the sale of my home, I signed up again when I purchased my most recent home. I had a small leak from my AC unit. They sent a company out 4 times to “fix” the small leak.
After the 4th visit, the contractor they sent out flooded my basement. They sent out another contractor from a different company and still after the 2Nd visit with this new company it has not been fixed. They take weeks to approve the contractor to come out and send out contractors who are jokes! I’ve called every 3 days because I am promised a return call with 24-48 hours but NO ONE calls me to communicate the status. Now I’m being told I need to pay over $800 to fill the unit but it was full prior to the visits from the first contractor! We haven’t had AC for over a month and a half, my basement flooded due to the contractor's incompetence and now they refuse to work with the new contractor to fix the problem that has now gone from a small leak to a FLOOD!
Jessica,
I apologize for the many times that we have inconvenienced you. In an effort to resolve your concerns, I just sent you an email. I look forward to assisting you.

American Home Shield (AHS) is by far the worst customer service business it has ever been my sorrow to deal with. My Miele refrigerator has been dripping for a year. AHS sent a contractor to fix it and thus began my trip down the rabbit hole. They broke parts, ordered unnecessary parts, installed the parts incorrectly, broke additional parts while trying to install parts. At one time AHS offered to replace the fridge. The problem was that the contract maximum is $3000 and the fridge cost $8000. We started with repairs again, requesting a different contractor, who took it apart and put it back together, but left out some screws.
Needless to say the drip continued. When AHS sent the contractor back, they claimed that because there were pieces "missing" it was no longer covered. I contacted AHS to find a status (they did not contact me) and the agent sent a notice to contractor relations, telling me that I would hear from them in 24-48 business hours.
8 days later I called again and the agent saw the note, reported that there was no response from contractor relations, and stated that she had just sent them a reminder. I called again 6 days later and was told that there was no record of either of the two agents contacting contractor relations, that I "hung up" on the first agent, etc. I asked to speak to a supervisor but they are ALL ALWAYS in a meeting, of unknown duration. I asked to have a manager call me (have tried in the past never with success). It is now 8 days later and I was just told that there is no contractor relation claim. The agent will send them a message. The absolute worst business!!! But my experience with my split heat pump is even more infuriating.
I had a split heat pump installed that continued to give me problems, with annual calls to AHS. It finally got to the point where they authorized replacement which cost me $1700 out of pocket. Eastern Air Control did the replacement in November 2017. All was fine until June 2018. As soon as the AC was turned on the unit started dripping down my wall from the corner away from the drain tube. Obviously we had no need for the AC until then so did not know there was a problem earlier, but it was beyond the service warranty period so it was a new service call.
Over the next 4 or 5 months Eastern Air Control or DMC Mechanical (same people different company name) tried several times to convince me that they fixed it, but it kept dripping, so they stopped taking or returning my calls. It took months to find another contractor willing to fix someone else's screw up, but somebody finally came out and showed me that the unit was pitched away from the direction of the drain line. They rehung the unit and assured me it was corrected. In late May we turned on the AC and it started dripping down the freshly repaired and painted wall. I called AHS and they assigned DMC Mechanical, even though I had them put a note in my record a year ago that I never wanted them in my home again. They set up the appointment with my wife on her cell phone, and the day of cancelled it by calling my cell phone (I was traveling) while my wife waited during an 8 hour window!!!!
I just spent another hour on the phone with AHS reliving the above history. There is no record of communication with contractor relations, although today's agent will put in emails about both issues. There is no record of my not wanting DMC ever again. And, of course, there is no supervisor available to talk with me since they are all in a meeting. Frank ** is a very nice guy and honorable, but has had some issues so I don't know if he is still involved with the business. His wife Denise is very pleasant to speak with and usually did a good job of getting my messages through. Frank's brother John and son Nicholas are not to be relied on or trusted to do anything. That is Eastern Air Control and DMC Di Dolce Mechanical Contractors - To be avoided at all costs.
American Home Shield is absolutely terrible. Their agents don't document calls, don't follow up with what they say they will do, don't ever call back. There are no customer service supervisors EVER available. If, and when these two problems are resolved AHS will be losing a long standing client (about two decades). Beware!!! and be Forewarned!!!

Original Review: May 29, 2019
We have a leak somewhere in our duct work. Last summer, it was difficult to get our upstairs bedrooms cooled because all of the cold air produced by the A/C is going into the basement. Basement was always nice and cold but that doesn't help us sleep. I noticed the leak when I have the door mostly closed with the A/C running. It is a gale force wind of cold air coming up from the basement. During the winter, when the door was closed to the basement, I could go downstairs and break a sweat because it was so warm, also indicating a leak into that space. Note that we don't have any duct work that opens into the basement at this time.
So, I logged into my AHS account on their website to submit a service request. Duct work is CLEARLY listed as a covered option so I submitted the request. The company it was assigned to called and said they won't cover anything they can't see which, by its very nature, describes duct work. The furnace is completely accessible and we do have a crawl space accessible from where the furnace is located. I suspect the leak is somewhere in that space but they still won't even look without charging me.
Last Friday I called AHS and the representative I spoke with said all of my ductwork is covered regardless of whether or not they can see it. I was told my service request would be assigned to a different contractor. This morning when I looked, my request was still assigned to the original contractor so I called again. The representative I spoke with this morning said that they don't cover ductwork that isn't visible. WHAT?! It's never visible! It's DUCTwork! I explained that I was told on Friday I was covered but she wouldn't budge. I cancelled the request and now have to figure out how to get it fixed on my own.
Jim,

Call was placed online 5/19/2019 with AHS. Comfort A/C did not get here until 5/23/2019. Called several time to find out what the delay was. Comfort very vague about when they could get to my house. Started calling AHS customer support to get the status for my service call. First of all, I was talking to someone whom could not speak English very well, I asked to speak to someone that could speak English, he refused. I asked to speak to his supervisor and again, he refused. Called Comfort A/C and they gave me another number to call for authorization to repair the A/C. I had already given Comfort A/C my permission to pay for the Freon.
I spent at least 3 hours trying to get through to the authorization depart to find out what the problem was. AHS was speaking on the phone to someone that AHS had authorized the repair, another person called me from AHS and said the repair was not authorized. AHS needs to get their act together and find a better way to respond to their customers rather than an overseas customer support That cannot speak English or has a clue as to what is going on.
I can understand your frustration with trying to get your a/c repaired. I just sent you an email in an effort to resolve your issue. I look forward to speaking with you.

We had renewed our AHS warranty to cover an older AC unit. Well, it had issues so we called AHS. We have a warranty, or so we thought. AHS wanted to refer us to a contractor in Phoenix while our property is in Tucson. We told them we could get a contractor and they said that would be fine. The work could be performed and they would reimburse us up to $806.00. Now that the work is complete and paid for by us AHS has sent numerous emails wanting more items. We provided those items and finally on the last email they stated this is denied.
Now mind you this has been ongoing for about a month and a half. I would hate to think other people who assume they have a warranty would be without air for that long. I wish, I had the ability to rate this company less than one star, my honest opinion is a minus 10. I also wish, I had read the numerous 1 star ratings on this site. It would have saved me much headache and wasted time. This has cost me over 15 hours between hold times being hung up on by AHS customer service as well as managers and, now being forced to write to the Attorney General and BBB.
I wanted to include this from AHS. (With an American Home Shield® home warranty, you will enjoy reliable service, effective repairs and efficient replacement of your malfunctioning air conditioning system in accordance with the terms of your plan. Home warranty plans including coverage for air conditioners vary, allowing you to customize your home warranty plan for your unique needs. When your air conditioning unit fails, let the security of an AHS® home warranty help ease your stress.) I reviewed my coverage and it did not say any items were excluded from repairs. They have made this whole process very stressful. No one at AHS has made me feel valued as a customer. They have made me feel like I am only a pain and they are very dismissive in conversations.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

So, we filed a claim online to American Home Shield. You just hop on there real quick, log in to your account, send a request and they contact you within 24 hours. It has been efficient. Once they got in touch with me, everything rolled quickly. The guy showed up right when he said he was going to and took care of business. The air conditioner seems to be running a little bit more smoothly and he gave me some advice on how to make sure that it didn’t happen again. The contractor was great. We have a fairly old unit and I've had them come multiple times. Every time we have to deal with them, they always send someone who’s very knowledgeable about what we got going on. So, I trust them. Prior to AHS, we had another warranty company and they were horrible. They wouldn’t help us with anything we needed help with. We had a stove problem on one of our other houses that we don't have AHS on and the tech from that warranty company looked at it and said that they're not helping us. The problem was a fuse so, my husband who is a contractor got some of his guys out and that got it fixed. We changed to AHS then and we've had good luck ever since.
One time, It was summer in Georgia and when we turned on our AC, it was running hot air that was a little cool but not too cool. We called American Home Shield and gave our deductible. Their rep told us that we needed to create an account online. My husband did that and thereafter, they sent us a text message saying that Best Appliance would be contacting us. The next day, Best Appliance's guy called and said that he couldn't come out to our place 'til Sunday, which was okay. He came out between 10:00 and 2:00 just like he said. He was really nice and he recharged our AC. By the time he left, we had cold air. Since the repair, the AC has been fine.

The customer service is great. Any interaction that we've had with American Home Shield or the people they've sent out has always been good. The contractors have been timely, professional and clean. For the most part, I don't have any issues with American Home Shield. The only thing is that sometimes, when they go to replace something, we feel that it’s not of the same quality of what was broken. We had a washing machine go out and we didn’t feel the replacement was of the same quality as the Whirlpool that was there. But policies are policies.
Most recently, the ceiling fan in the master was acting up so Moen Electric came, looked at it and determined that the motor was no good. The young man who came was very good and professional. But they couldn't do anything because the ceiling fan was 15 years old. So that was it. Now, we’re relying on Home Shield. Once we get the new ceiling fan installed, they’ll give us replacement cost.

When we realized with had a problem with our plumbing, we called American Home Shield and they scheduled someone for the next day. The guy did a really good job. The body of the garbage disposal was leaking and he winded up replacing it. He had one on the truck and one ready to go just in case. The problem was fixed. The last time I filed a claim the rep was a little bit difficult to understand. She had a heavy accent so it was difficult for me to understand. But other than that, everything is super. They called me back immediately and we scheduled a time, so it was all good.
The contractor was quick, courteous and got the job done really quick. Everything’s been working great. It was a huge benefit to have Home Shield because I would’ve had to come out of pocket a lot more. Even though I pay a premium every month, that wasn’t all a really large expense. But say like I know if my air conditioner went out or something like that, there’d be no way I’d have enough to cover an emergency like that. And I know these things they would be covered on my policy.

American Home Shield is fairly easy to use. Contractors are usually good, though sometimes I don’t get good ones. This last experience, the electrician was amazing. But sometimes AHS gives me the bottom-of-the-barrel contractors to come out, so the work doesn’t always end well. AHS needs to have more options available for contractors. It would be nice if they could give us a list of contractors, then we’d be able to choose from that instead of them just assigning someone to us.

Then in 48 hours, someone would contact us. That did happen for our most recent claim for the refrigerator and it was good. I was super satisfied with this experience. There was water leaking somewhere in the middle of the refrigerator and the technician investigated, figured it out and he fixed it. Normally, he has to call in a part so we would have to wait a week before it comes. But a part wasn't needed this time. This guy that American Home Shield normally gets is really good. I like him. When I first got American Home Shield, the guy came out and I got frustrated because I was charged $600. I was paying AHS for the whole year and I was in a contract with them but I didn't know that. Also, a guy tried to put in an AC unit in a year prior to that so, I probably had to spend out of pocket about $2000 and my AC still was still not working. When you pay into something like a warranty, you would expect to get what you pay for. When you don't get what you pay for, like I did in that case, it makes me a little bit livid about why I’m using them but I went back to American Home Shield. I didn't think they would but they let me come back on a new contract, so it was good.
My house is 20 years old and falling apart, so I was planning to use them to help get my house straight because home repair is expensive. If I fixed everything in here, it would have cost me more but using them, I thought I would pay less. I’ve been told not to get a warranty but I need one after what I’ve already paid out. I called American Home Shield when I submitted my claim and the rep said that they would call me within 24 hours once it has been sent.
My AC was not working. It was 90 degrees outside and inside my house but it felt like 100 degrees in here. Every year, I have this problem. Last year, the contractor came out, fixed it and it worked fine. But here I go again. When I called last week, I wasn’t here when the guy came. He put a capacitor in and it was cold at night, but I don't think he did a diagnostic check. It’s definitely something more than the capacitor. He also told me the AC needed to be cleaned and it does but I don't know how to do that. I used to have trees around my house and I got them cut down, so it might have some stuff around it. When I looked in the air conditioner unit after he told me that, there was a lot of water in it. I thought maybe he was gonna open it up and clean it or go in and look at stuff but he didn't do anything.
I want them to come back while I’m here, and I want him to talk to me as to what the next step would be and whether I need an air conditioning unit or if I have a bad fan motor, which I was told I had. The air conditioner has already been replaced but it might not be big enough for the house. So, right now, I have the same problem. There’s no air blowing out.

One of our air conditioners wasn’t working and we filed a claim with AHS. They sent out Air Dynasty AC and Heating and they said no matter how much they wanted to charge us, they wanted to put an entire new system in, which we did not need. So, we told them we only wanted what we needed to have done and we weren’t replacing everything. So we’re not really sure what we paid and what American Home Shield paid as far as the benefit goes. It was a little confusing because whether the bill was $1600 or $10,000, the techs said that American Home Shield still pays $2000 of it, which didn't sound right to me. We've been with AHS since January and this was our second claim. So far, hings are okay but they need to be more transparent as far as what things are covered completely like the furnace or air conditioner, and on how much you are getting back in reimbursement from them for your coverage.

My air conditioning went out and it felt like the temperature was 100 degrees. So, I called Home Shield, and they sent the man out, and I was very happy he came right away. He fixed it right away, and I was really, really pleased with his work. I’m gonna keep Home Shield because this worker was so good. I’ve been having Home Shield at this place for 11 years, and I also had them where I lived before.
I had been getting this other air conditioning people ever since I’ve had Home Shield. They come out twice a year to check my air conditioning, and then they come back in October to check the heater. I have to pay for that and it's $175 a year. We had such hot weather here and I was really afraid if my air condition breaks. So, I wanted to get them to come since they service my air conditioning. When I talked to the lady at Home Shield, she said I can’t request anybody, I have to take what they give me, and that it is in my contract. But I didn’t see that in the contract. I told her that that was not how it has been before. I have always been able to request somebody. But she still said no and that I have to take who she gives me.
It’s like living in a tyrannical government where you don’t have any choice. But I didn’t get mad about it because as it turned out, the man they sent did such a wonderful job. Also, I couldn’t understand the rep's English very well and I didn’t wanna get into any unpleasantries, so I didn’t tell her about the other two people that I had a bad experience with.
I’ve always had very good quality people come out. But I had two bad experiences with the people that they sent out before. I thought about canceling Home Shield because those two visits were so bad. When they sent out the two people to work on my refrigerator, it was a disaster. When the first tech came, he looked at the refrigerator and I had water coming out on the floor. He told me I needed a new refrigerator and he was gonna tell Home Shield about it. But I never heard from him again.
I called back Home Shield several times, and finally, they said that the tech said nothing was wrong with the refrigerator. That was a lie because he had told me that I needed a new refrigerator. And then Home Shield asked me if I wanted someone else to come out. I told them that I wanted someone else to come out because I had water on the floor. So, they sent the other tech. He said that it was my water filter and that I needed a new water filter. I had to pay him $75, and then I had to pay him another $75 personally to fix the water filter. He did fix it because the water stopped coming out.
Everybody around where I’m living is quitting Home Shield, and they’re going to Choice because it’s much cheaper. But I am hesitant to change from Home Shield because my neighbor had her dishwasher broke, they came to fix it but then they did something and the plumbing broke. So, now they had to send her a plumber to fix the plumbing. With Choice, the fee is $38 but you’re not gonna get real good people for that price. But with Home Shield, you’re paying them $75. That is $10 less than what a regular call is, so you would be able to get a better quality technician. But I do notice that Home Shield needs to be careful about the qualifications of the people they send out because of the experience I had with the refrigerator. But now, I’m happy with Home Shield because I could’ve died with no air conditioner.

We currently have a policy with American Home Shield, in fact I just renewed it three days prior to this event. I submitted a service request on Saturday, May 25th at 4:30 a.m. Our central air had gone out Friday night. As of today May 28th we still have not heard from American Home Shield to set up a contractor. We have called several times and have never talked with anyone who spoke English as a first language (language barrier made it more frustrating), and we have gotten the runaround. We have been repeatedly told that a vendor was trying to be secured, and that they could give us outside authorization on Tuesday if necessary. We finally were told that our service request would be taken care of on Tuesday within 24 business hours, that they do not fill service requests on weekends and holidays.
Asked numerous times to speak with a supervisor only to be put on hold for 20 plus minutes and then the call would be dropped. I realize it is a holiday weekend, but a phone call or email would have been nice saying that due to a holiday weekend our request would be on hold until Tuesday instead of talking with multiple individuals who could finally really that information of Monday afternoon. We have been a customer for 3 years and have never had this problem, but with a heat index of 105 degrees (Southeast Alabama) some notification would have been nice. Ridiculous, beyond outrage. As of today almost 4 days later we have decided to call a heating and cooling company and paid someone to come out and fix it for $89.95 although AHS was more than happy to go ahead and collect our copay before we even had an appointment for a service provider.
Hi Amanda,

We have been with American Home Shield since we bought our home 18 years ago. But hardly ever even use it. But we had an issue with our furnace and figured we would call them up. They linked us up with Carolina Heating Air and after 4 service calls the Customer service between AHS and Carolina Heating Air has been nothing less but disgusting. No call backs, no working for the homeowner, no communication, but plenty of dropped balls, blame game and rude disrespectful representatives between both companies that have obviously no clue on either one of their roles.
We have repeatedly asked for help in communicating with Carolina Heating Air as it is 103 degrees outside and properly 120 degrees in our home. My children and myself have suffered and we have spent money on fans and other cooking methods; even after we paid $218 for Freon that has now leaked all over our background. So miserable is an understatement. And no one can get out supposedly because they are so swamped, but the job was not finished at our home; I would think we would be a priority. AHS also wants to charge me $150 as a "Dispatch Fee" And having to pay $150 just to request service, which is not refundable. This also about 3x what the honest repair shops here charge as an initial service call. This "Dispatch fee" is just way out of line.
Plus they won't tell me what additional charges there will be on top of the "Dispatch fee". Unfortunately, I believed all those wonderful reviews that gushed on and on about how wonderful AHS was. Maybe it is wonderful to the gullible. I'll consider this a lesson learned in who not to use. (PS. The part was an $8 part, so my total cost was under $70 out of pocket. Which is less than half what AHS wanted just to "dispatch" the repairman.) A lot of suckers out there and I was one of them.
Hi Darrell,
I would like to thank you for sharing your most recent experience regarding the appliance repairs and service fee cost. I understand your frustration and would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

My AC stated leaking water on 5/1/2019 and reported on next day. Appointments were scheduled and cancelled by 2-3 vendors after repeated phone calls. Finally a vendor came a week after and checked it and said evaporator coil is leaking and need to replace along filling 2-3 lbs of Freon 410. AHS sent another contractor almost a week later for 2nd opinion, confirmed the same thing. POOR COORDINATION between AHS and Contractors, ** I had to contact AHS and Contractors at least 20-25 times by this time.** Customer support doesn't understand anything and when asked to forward to supervisor or someone in USA (not to disrespect them), nothing works, just hitting the wall.
Finally they have me the quote of $765 for Freon refill of 7 LBS after $10 covered by AHS. I explained AHS it requires only 2-3 lbs per what Vendor (Carolina Air INC) but story changed to 7 lbs and at 119/lb, this is double than what I could get it done by individual contractors. I told AHS, I will get the Evap coil done by vendor (Carolina Air Inc) and get the freon filled by someone else on my own expenses. AHS refused and they also gave me the cash offer with tonnes of restrictions. I finally went with AHS's vendor by paying $765 and $110 for service fees. This tells, they jack-up the price for freon and no choice for customer for freon and win-win between AHS and vendor, per my understanding.
Another big problem is it's totally different brand, my system is Carrier, they did put dirt cheap Goodman's Evap Coil, in Amazon it's $365. With this combination, I could get the work done for less than $1000, why should I use the home warranty company? Major issues:
1) Customer service is horrible, total 20-30 calls I had to make, poor answers.2) Almost a month to complete the work (except 1 extra day I took to decide whether to go with AHS or cash out option). If I haven't called, it could have taken another week or more.
3) Jack-up of freon cost compare to other vendors $49-69/lb vs $119/lb and not letting the option to split (even I want to pay from my own pocket).
4) Cash out option is on the fence, time it takes to process and also if they really refund the money based on "determination" of the work done by external contractor.
5) Vendor wants to fill 7 lbs of Freon, though only 2-3 lbs needed and AHS supported the Vendor and didn't want to comment on that. That's colluded in my opinion.
6) With AHS, my out of pocket is $875, if I get it done by myself, less than $1000 with better parts.
It deserves ZERO stars.
Aravind,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with AHS regarding your AC system. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

AHS sent Myers AC company on May 11. I was told the repair would be submitted and I would get a call to setup the repair. Myers and AHS did not contact me. I called today, May 28. I received the worst customer service from representative Wesley and Debbie. I requested to speak to a supervisor several times. My request was denied and Wesley stated he was denying my request to speak to a supervisor. Wesley called Myers during our call and stated Myers would call with update. I told Wesley this was unacceptable. Debbie kept me on hold a long time, returned and said she had a supervisor, and placed me on hold again. I ended both calls dissatisfied as a loyal long time policyholder. I finally get a call from the Authorization Department this morning after my poor experience with Customer Service.
The website does not have a place for complaints. I was told the address to issue a complaint by Authorization representative, who politely informed that her department does not handle complaints. She was good, patient, and professional. I have had my AC repaired too many times under my AHS. They still have not replaced the unit after all of these repairs. The amount I must pay has increased each time. This is not adding up. I have been with AHS OVER 10 YEARS. I informed all three employees that I was not pleased with AHS and Myers. I will be reporting this matter to the Better Business Bureau and ADA. I will not endorse AHS.
Mavis,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I see that a representative is researching and currently working your case. Thanks for allowing us to address this issue for you. We look forward to our continued business with us.

I will stop using AHS because they are slow to get service called, when they do, they send someone from over an hour away and thus are always late. They only do minimal repair vs fix it right. Not worth the time or money. Also, when calling to discuss an issue, takes 30-45 min to talk to a person.
Hi Chris,

1st service call with them. I called in Saturday evening that my air conditioning was not working. I had to call the contractor the next day 3 times to get thru to him which he told me I would have to call on Tuesday morning to schedule an appointment which would make it more than 48 hours from requesting service and it was almost 90 degrees. I called AHS but they were not able to help me. They just said "too bad". Since Monday was Memorial Day. If you looked up the contractor online it states that the AC company is open 24/7.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I recently did a pre-season air-conditioner check with American Home Shield. I had an electrical issue prior to that where the technician had to install a remote switch on a ceiling fan. Both of them were fine and finished the same day. However, I need to look at my contract again, especially with the plumbing job that I cancelled out on, as I was told that my problem was not covered under my contract. Also, I'm concerned as to what the service fee is gonna be like in a few years because of the high amount now. But as far as the service is concerned, all of the technicians that have serviced me have been quite professional and I’ve been pleased with all of the work. I will recommend them, but would tell individuals to make sure that they are aware and study carefully what’s covered and what’s not.

I used AHS for about two years for a rental property and everything was good up until I needed their services. I wanted to take advantage of the HVAC Tune-up ($75) and take care of an issue with the system ($100), so we scheduled a service from their website and a local reputable company that I used in the past was scheduled. So far so good. Then suddenly the appointment got switched to a different local not-so reputable company. After 45-minutes on the phone, got it switched back. At this point they have charged us the $75 deductible fee for the Tune-Up and a $100 for the HVAC issue.
After 24-hours – same issue. The system had automatically switched again to a third company. This time we proceeded and scheduled the appointment. Technician never showed up. To our disbelief, we found out that the technician was stating that they had come to the property and left because nobody was home. Called AHS back to cancel with this company and reschedule. They said the service was complete since they had come to the property. So, at this point we are down $175, and no service received. I got really frustrated and called to cancel my account. Apparently, there was also a $49.99 cancellation fee on top of this.
I requested a refund since I had a proof that nobody had shown up to our property, but it has been well over 30 days and no refund received. Now, I am getting emails that I still owe the cancellation fee and I will be given to collection agency. This is so ridiculous and such a shady business practice. Please stay away from this company!!! So, to sum up, if you don’t care who comes up and service your property you will be fine. AHS’ database is full of not-so reputable companies.
Izzy,
I apologize that you were not happy with the service received. I wish that we could have caught this review before the cancelation was processed to see if there were any exceptions that could have been made. We hope this experience does not deter you from considering AHS in the future for your home warranty needs.

My oven didn’t seem like it was turning off all the way and the fan was running and running. I submitted a claim with AHS and my experience with their reps was really good. They were very courteous, prompt to get someone out there, and they responded well. But they sent someone out initially that I wasn’t too impressed with and he was just kinda looking to throw parts at the machine. Then, they sent out a second contractor that was more thorough and the techs were right on time. They did everything in a timely manner, too. They checked everything they could check and they definitely tried to figure out what the problem was. But no repairs were actually done. It was just that the oven didn’t seem like it was doing what it was doing when I called for the repair. Either something wasn’t working quite right or maybe the relay was stuck. But it seemed to have rectified itself. All in all, AHS was very helpful.

American Home Shield was great. We’ve had them since I met Brian and I married Brian 16 years ago next month. They have always come through. We’ve had to deal with them a little bit on some things. It goes years without anything happening, and then things start breaking down. Usually I just jump online and make an appointment, and they follow through. Then someone will call us to say, “When would you like us to come?” This time, I called to make an appointment because I had questions about my oven. The young lady that helped me there was very informative and set a visit for our washer.
Both the oven and the washer are extremely old. The manufacture date was like 29 years but it's 22, 24 years before now when they purchased them. American Home Shield couldn't get parts for either one of them and gave us options of something they chose. They were willing to follow through and do it all. I’m a firm believer in sticking with what you’ve got that works really well, and I’ve had Kenmore for years and years and years. So, we went to Sears and shopped. Even the young lady that helped us there was very knowledgeable about AHS and their processes, so that was even helpful again in making sure we had the right information that I could transfer over to them. I followed the instructions in their email and sent them what they needed, and now I’m just waiting to get the checks.
We went through a process like that about 4 years ago. Our swamp cooler which was very high-end was in the same situation. It wasn’t the type that you just drive to your Home Depot-type of place and buy the cheapest one on the shelf. So, we went to a dealer and looked. When it came down to it, we had to put $100 out of our own pocket. We really had to search, but we did end up getting one that was equal in quality from Lowe’s, and they had discounted it because it was at the end of the season. We were able to make it work with putting out $100.
However, it’s hard to understand the people that they hire to talk on the phone sometimes. I don’t wanna be that kind of person, but you have to keep asking them to repeat what they say. They could speak better English. Sometimes it’s easier to do it online so you don’t have to speak with a human. Also, American Home Shield could stop raising the contracts every year. I’ve started looking into some of the new groups that send out emails, but I thought when you’re with someone for so many years and they’ve treated you right, it’s not fair to leave them.

I clicked a couple of boxes of the Home Shield website and received a response. The appliance company called within an hour, and were out about two hours later, and repaired it. This experience was wonderful. I just wish that in cases where you have a high-end appliance that has to be repaired, they will actually replace it with what you have. Sometimes, they will give you what’s called builder standard. So if you have a three-quarter power like this garbage disposal, the builder standard is one-half horsepower, or you have a high-end ceiling fan, they just give you the standard. But overall, I prefer having a warranty.

I had three different work orders with American Home Shield for five total items. I had two electric issues, two appliance issues, and one plumbing issue. It's always so hard waiting on repairmen. It's very tedious. The first one was the electrical issue and the contractor was Jim Hubbard Electric. The tech was excellent. He was competent, polite, and thorough. He called the night before and scheduled an appointment with me for the next day. Everything was very positive about him. He told me what he was doing. He replaced the motor of the vent fan, but the outside was yellowed. He made suggestions on things that I could do to improve something that he couldn't do because it wasn't part of the order. He told me what to do and showed me how to do it. So, he went above and beyond. He was also very respectful of our property.
I had two other service calls, but the one with the appliances is still not complete. The tech did repair the refrigerator door, and the washing machine leak but I still have a little bit of water. He was supposed to bring me a lint catcher for my dryer, and the last time he came and repaired my dryer was about a year or so ago. But he haven't brought it to me. I checked with him yesterday and did not hear back from him. I called him and it went straight to voicemail. So, that is still an outstanding repair.
American Home Shield outsources their phone service to the Philippines and there's somewhat of a language barrier. I can tell they're scripted. But they're very nice. They want to please and help. Sometimes I get frustrated when I have a language barrier. It's kinda funny because their names are like Jeff and Ace and Raquel, and you know that's not their real names. But they were very helpful and patient, so I had no problems with doing my claims over the phone.

Submitting a claim to AHS is always an easy process. I do it online. I had an AC issue and submitted a claim to AHS. Apparently, there was water in the pan. The float got to a certain height that kicked off the breaker in the attic, which cut all the electricity to my thermostat and turned it completely off until the water went down. Then, the unit came back on, but when the condensation in the pan got high again, it cut off again. So, Air Dynasty A/C & Heating had to run bleach through the line to get rid of the algae that was backed up inside the line.
Johnny was the one who came out and he was very understanding and easy to talk to. He made sure that we understood that he was a local service and if I needed someone to come back out just for regular maintenance, he offered his services for that. He was supposed to be there between 2 o’clock and 6 o’clock but he was there before 3 o’clock. Before coming in my home, he put covers on his feet and made sure that he had covers on his feet every time he came in. He made sure he had his tools before he went up in the attic. So, he did good.

My doorbell won’t work, and he came, looked at a few wires, then told me he’ll be back in touch with me. And four days went by without a call. They never did fix the issue. But AHS have some contractors that are good.
They did a great job this last go-around. I just wish they would deal with more local people instead of the mom-and-pop business. The majority of them be from out of town. Twice, they used somebody like 100 miles away instead of somebody local. AHS is trying to get away from the big companies where they can save money too. I understand. But at least they need to get somebody, when they tell you something, they're gonna do it.

All American Plumbing was great and I enjoyed them very much. However, Bass Plumbing, the first people that American Home Shield tried to assign, really stunk. First off, the number assigned to the account with AHS was somebody’s cell phone and he was on vacation. So, when I called, I was given another number to call, and I called that number. The lady said that I was on the schedule for the next day and that somebody would call me back. Nobody ever bothered to call me back. Then I tried to call that number the next morning to find out what was going on, and they never answered the phone. So, I finally found a third number for them, and I called that number. And the lady said that she doesn’t’ do scheduling and she would have the lady that does scheduling call me. They never bothered to call me.
I called AHS back and asked them to reschedule me with somebody else. So, then I talked to the lady and she was very helpful. She said that they were gonna assign the claim to All American Plumbing. They called me and came out the next day. I liked their timeliness and the way that the contractor fixed the problem. He was very good all-around. The leak was causing mold in my crawlspace that I ended up spending $5,000 to fix and since the repair, everything is going great and there are no more leaks. The start button on my washing machine wouldn’t work. It happened on a Friday and they contacted me first thing Monday morning, before 8 o’clock. Then I called them, and they had all the information. I told the rep what it was, and she said they’d see if they could order a part, have it with them and fix it the same day. Then they scheduled to come on a Friday.
The technician called on a Wednesday. He was in town and said he had a cancellation. He asked if he could come out. I said sure so he came out, looked at it, and said, “Unfortunately, we can’t get parts for this anymore.” He took it apart and looked at it. There was nothing he could do. He said, “I’ll call you either today or tomorrow, let you know my findings and what we’re gonna do.” He called later that afternoon and said that he’d turned it over to American Home Shield. He said, “If you don’t hear from them by tomorrow, call them.” I didn’t give it the full day and called them ‘cause I can’t do without a washer. They were very, very helpful and very informative. They answered all my questions. They allowed me $643.13. The rep emailed me a list of different machines. I wrote down the model numbers that they gave me, and I went down to the different stores and looked.
I really wasn’t interested in a GE product, and I did find an LG product that I liked. I wanted the dryer to match it. They were 16 years old. I called them back and they said, “Go ahead and buy it.” They gave me the instructions on how to get reimbursed. One of the stipulations was that it had to have a year’s manufacturer’s warranty on it. I made a copy of the receipt, did everything, and mailed it in. Then I got to looking at what I mailed in and the receipt did not have that one year manufacturer’s warranty. So, I got online and printed out a copy of the washer itself then I resent everything. I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield and I have recommended them. A lot of my friends have gone to American Home Shield on my recommendation.

We had an issue with our AC in the attic and we submitted a claim with AHS. It was easy to file the claim with them but the techs who came out didn't do all the piping they should have done. So we had to turn it off until we had a new pipe put in there because it overflowed a little bit. And they had to reconfigure some PVC pipe. So far, we've had two claims since I've had AHS and I have no complaints about either contractors they sent out. They were professional and they showed up when they were supposed to.

American Home Shield has fixed a couple of different things for me. When I had a heating issue, the tech from Central Jersey Heating and Cooling came when he said he was gonna come. He was very professional and nice and he worked very quickly. He came back several different times to fix the issue because it was one of those weird hard to find things, but he eventually figured it out and changed a switch. And it's all good. It was not the first time he’d been here. He helped me fix the air conditioning a year or two ago. He's a good guy.
It's easy to submit claims with American Home Shield. I typically do it online, unless I’m in one of those places where I have time to chat with somebody, and I can talk about the issue a little bit. They do what they say they’re gonna do. I had to pay a little bit for certain things, but that was fine. American Home Shield is a good company. And I just recommended them to a coworker.

Having a broken freezer, I made a service request to American Home Shield and their online claims process was easy. My case was assigned to Suncoast A/C, Heating & Appliance and they were really good when it came to the scheduling. They came out in a couple of days and did a fine job. The refrigerator is good now performance-wise. The only thing is American Home Shield doesn't allow the technicians to fix things when they come out. They have to ask for approval then AHS dictates what is wrong with a unit. But they are not the ones actually servicing the product.
Reviewed May 27, 2019
American Home Shield does not care about their customers and could care less if their broken appliance gets fixed or not. I have called NUMEROUS times to have someone come fix my AC. The first time, 04.09.19, the unit was low on freon. Then a month later, 05.15.19, my ac stops working again, not the freon this time but the tech says he couldn't diagnose the problem because there was nothing wrong with it. Third time, 05.24.19, tech says it might be something electrical with the unit in the attic. Since AHS does not have the detailed diagnosis report from Total Air Care, who was assigned to my case all 3 times, they cannot and will not help me and get an emergency service or other company out here, especially on this Memorial Day weekend.
Bottom line, it's 100° outside today and tomorrow and I have no AC and no one seems to care. Worst first experience with AHS. More than likely, I will be cancelling the policy since they are useless to begin with. Oh, and good luck trying to talk with a person who actually understands you vs just repeating everything you say.
I can understand your frustration with having an ongoing a/c issue, especially in Florida. i just sent you an email in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Read the reviews and trust them: this company is the worst. BBB alone has THOUSANDS of negative complaints. My AC broke, one rep stated “emergency” temperatures in Florida was 82 degrees, and then hung up on me when I wanted to speak to a supervisor. Called back, the next said 105... 105 degree temperatures outside is when they consider it an emergency. I work in property management, we call out at 78 or higher. I was shocked.
Anyways, they sent no one, scheduled nothing, and never called back within their 4-hr window as promised. I had to call them, then I was informed I had to fix it on my own accord and they would reimburse. I received a letter today saying now they aren’t reimbursing after I got the repairs done by a local, licensed professional that was not on their laundry list of companies I couldn’t use. So, I cancelled, less than 60-day into the contract.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

We have had this service for years. They have come out again to work on central air conditioner. We had to pay the service fee and then the contractor states it will be 300.00 dollars more for recharge because the company doesn't pay for it. And he can put stop leak in it again which they have done before. He would not fix the unit. Stated it would cost about 1700.00 to fix it right and that American Shield wouldn't pay because they want the customer to be blamed for the problems. That way they don't have to pay. I am so upset with this company and would not recommend it to anyone. This company is nothing but a cash machine for American Shield and are so crooked they couldn't lay in a round house.
I apologize for the inconvenience Donna. I just sent you an email in an effort to resolve your a/c issue. I look forward to assisting you.

Both of our AC units quit working, which was not good. I got online to submit a claim to American Home Shield and scheduled it. The company texted 10 minutes later and then, they called me within a few hours and set up a general time frame. They also called the day before and on the day itself. It was great. They did a good job confirming everything. This is my first experience with a home warranty company and the service guy was fantastic. He was professional and I didn’t feel like he was trying to do unnecessary repairs. However, the warranty did not cover what I needed to cover. The repairman said what needed to happen but it wasn’t what AHS was gonna cover.
The units were 14 to 15 years old and it needed more than what the warranty covered. So, it was not worth it for me and I’m considering canceling it. It broke again the day before so, we had to go all day without air on Monday. Yesterday, the repairman said that a new blower was needed up in the attic, but because it’s not actually broken when he was standing there right then, American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it. The coverage isn’t working for what I actually need.

American Home Shield has helped with other things, and it hasn't been a problem. I had a situation with my garbage disposal in my rental property and the contractor came out and took care of it. It's just this one particular situation with the sump pump that's really an issue. MoreThan Plumbing first came out and looked at it, and they said everything was fine. So, I contacted the insurance company, had them come out, clear the water damage and air it out. The next day, the sump pump acted up again.
When I called the plumbing company again, they told me more work needed to be done. I asked the technician how come they didn't tell me that the first time because I had already spent money from my insurance company. I was already at $10,000 usage of my money. So, now I have to go back, spend some more money, and the problem is still not solved. I still have water in my basement. I was getting frustrated because they were saying that American Home Shield won't cover the work that needs to be done. The technician was very arrogant about it. He was saying that he had to get permission from American Home Shield to do the work. He never got back with us and say if it is a go or not a go. It was just left up in the air. This happened around end of April and we haven't heard back from him since.

But it’s been about three weeks now. So, we haven’t closed out the ticket and I'm still waiting on my order to be completed.
Earlier this week, I called American Home Shield again and spoke to another lady. She got on the phone, called the company that's supposed to be fixing the faucet, and left a message. My toilet wasn’t working and it wouldn’t flush but Drain Go of Alabama got it all fixed. It was easy filing a claim with American Home Shield although it was a little hard to understand the person that I was speaking with. It was such a pleasant change. The last person who came from Drain Go was rude and awful. His name was Shaun but from what I understand, he's gone.
But American Home Shield dropping refrigerators was a bad thing because part of having this warranty was the refrigerator then the next thing I knew, they didn't have it anymore and I can't get my refrigerator fixed. Back in the flooding, there was a water leak from the refrigerator and a contractor came out and replaced the line. But when the icemaker started working, the refrigerator was leaking again. They said something underneath it was full and that it was probably inside the bottom of the refrigerator but I couldn't get it fixed because it was no longer covered.

So, it seemed like dishonesty was a big issue with one of the providers. I told American Home Shield about it and they handled it well. They got us a different company to help us.
We’ve had two costly things that we’ve had to fix, neither which have been covered by the warranty due to the caveats that they have in their plans. One was the sump pump, and they wouldn’t replace it because the air conditioner also drains into where the sump pump works. With my home design, there’s nowhere else for that to drain. So, you never know what kind of small-print caveat you’re gonna run into that’s gonna make them not pay. So, it seems that a lot of major things are exceptions based on caveats that are in the plans. So far, I’ve been unhappy with that. Other than that, we recently had HRS Heating and Cooling come out for a preventative maintenance. They've been out twice now and they had done a good job both times.

I've made claims with American Home Shield over the years and they've been very responsive, and all I have to do is pay the $100 fee and everything's taken care of. We recently wanted the HVAC inspected and tuned up for summer, and the tech from Joe Cool's came out and did that. He asked what I needed and I told him, and then I showed him the attic and helped open the attic door, and he went up and did his thing. When he came back down, he had a review of the systems and what he had tuned up and tightened, and he gave me a receipt. Everything is functioning well now.

2019 5/22, Wednesday afternoon, an online claim was made to fix the heat pump a/c unit. A text and email with the HVAC business name and telephone number were sent stating I would be contacted within 24 hours. 5/23, I waited 24 hours, was not contacted by the contractor, and called the HVAC "business" and left a message on the voicemail. 5/24, The contractor still did not call me back. I contacted American Home Shield (AHS), put on hold, operator called the contractor, got a voicemail, and sent the contractor an email. I never heard from the contractor and was urged to wait to hear from the contractor until Saturday morning, and call AHS when I didn't hear back from the contractor. I never heard back from the contractor.
5/25, AHS was contacted and I asked for a different HVAC company. AHS told me an email would be sent with the updated information and I would be called by the contractor to set up an appointment. I never received an email or a telephone call from AHS, and the new contractor never contacted me. 5/26, AHS was contacted and told me were unable to find a contractor due to it being Sunday. I'm guessing AHS will be unable to find a contractor on a federal holiday. I asked for a new contractor on Saturday, was told I'd receive an email with information, which was never sent. (AHS verifies your address, telephone number, and email address each time you call.) AHS ASKED ME TO FIND MY OWN CONTRACTOR, PAY FOR THE SERVICE, AND THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME. Is this a joke or a scam?
Jennifer,
I hate to hear that you were not satisfied with the service received with AHS. I have sent a private message to you in an effort to get more information to assist you further. I look forward to hearing from you.

I had called in for a water heater being busted (leaking and no hot water) and they didn’t have anyone to service it for 4 days. Given the urgency of the matter, post discussion with a customer service associate, I got my own contractor to fix the issue and AHS suggested submitting a review for reimbursement. It’s been 6 weeks with several follow up calls leading to nothing. The customer service personnel are clueless and if asked to speak with a supervisor, they suggest someone will call back with no call back. I am canceling my service and hoping others don’t sign up for this.
Update 05/30/2019: An AHS representative reached out but the issue is not resolved primarily because of the reasons listed below: - Their customer service associate has no sense of assessing the emergency of an issue, and expect me, the consumer of their services to "chat" with their associate so that there is a hard transcript as proof for communicating the urgency of the issue. Clearly, not willing to improve their process or lack of proper communication or even escalate to a supervisor. - They have no way of addressing emergency repairs since they quote the contract where it can take at least 24hours (weekdays only) to get someone to service the required appliance.
Rupa,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with AHS. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

My faucet was leaking down into my basement. American Home Shield sent out Dave & Sons Plumbing for my service request and they came last week. They were on time, quick and professional. Since their work, my faucet has been fine and I haven’t had any issues. I’m satisfied with this company that came out but I'm not satisfied with American Home Shield.
When I have a claim, I usually call and it's all automated. You get a recording saying that if you have a claim, you have to verify who you are or your contract number. You are then asked what is broken in your house. I called American Home Shield on several occasions because I had a previous claim and another company came out. The issue with this company was getting them out there. They kept saying they were coming but kept not showing. But once they finally got there, they did some good work.
Regarding those complaints of trying to get the technicians out there after no call no show, a supervisor promised that my money would be refunded for that particular job. When I had another job come up, I did not want to have to pay because American Home Shield never reimbursed me after I called on two different occasions. American Home Shield needs to do a lot of work on their customer service part. I work but I was spending hour over hour on the phone with customer service. I was promised callbacks but never got them. That was very annoying. In the end, they worked it out so when technicians came out for my last claim, the credit that was supposedly mailed to me was credited to this particular job.

I was having issues with my pool where my filter wasn’t running properly. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and I did everything online. The contractor came out on Wednesday and we thought the filter was fixed because it worked for a day. But then it turned out that the motor was a wrong size so they had to replace the motor. It wasn’t working Friday morning then they came back out Monday morning. The contractor was great and everything seems to be working now. It was a great experience overall. American Home Shield is a lot easier to deal with than Sears.

I had one contractor and he was great. I had water stopping the AC from running 'cause it was too filled up so I had an automatic cut-off, and he fixed it. The only problem I have was it's kind of misleading in a sense that it says it has customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That seems like it means that when I call for something, I should get customer service from whoever is coming to help me out, not customer service from American Home Shield. I had no AC and it was hot. I had seven people in my house 'cause I had some guests. They said on the email, "You'll get a call back from the company that's gonna come out between 24 and 48 hours." A call back in 48 hours didn't make sense to me. I thought customer service is 24 hours a day. That means that they answered within 24 hours a day, but it was misleading when you read.
When you read the American Home Shield thing, it should say customer service from American Home Shield, not from whoever's gonna service me for whatever services that I need. I could have called an AC guy locally and he would have been there right away. I'm gonna call and tell it's an emergency versus I'm gonna get a call from the company 24 to 48 hours. That would be two days and it was a 3-day weekend. The way they word it on the website and on the contract needs to be clear.

My refrigerator was not working. I submitted a claim over the phone with AHS and it was challenging. Talking with the rep I got aggravated me and I had to speak with someone else. It also took so long to get the part and I was not getting any answers from the company that I was assigned to. The people at AHS didn’t seem to be able to track things down and it was very frustrating. I had to end up demanding to speak with a supervisor then I got some action and it was almost 30 days before the repair was completed. It was quite a long time which was ridiculous.
Then, when the young man came out to fix the refrigerator, he was not a pleasant individual. And I just did not want him back in my home again. Once he did the unit, he didn’t explain to me how my refrigerator was gonna be reacting differently as far as setting the temperatures and things, because it was a whole, new computer unit that was put in there. So, I had to end up calling him back and I felt so foolish when he was explaining things to me. I told him that he should’ve explained that to me in the beginning and I would not have called him back.
I had to call him the third time because there was a leak on the floor. We both noticed a white spot when he pulled out the refrigerator, but he was the mechanic and he didn’t say a word about it. So, I had to put in another claim for the refrigerator and AHS finally sent a Sears representative out. He knew what was wrong right away and he said that the drain was clogged. It took him 10 minutes and he was outta here. He was a very pleasant young man and the refrigerator works like a dream since the repair. It's performing like it's brand new and it's fantastic.
So, the refrigerator was a horror story but in the past, whenever I called AHS, it was a pleasant and grateful experience. The first tech who came out for my refrigerator was probably an excellent mechanic but he was just not a people person. But some of AHS' representatives on the phone are impossible. I had to stop them a couple of times and tell them that I am not an idiot, I've got two masters, and they should not talk to me in that manner. I also didn't repeating everything that I said. I told them I just needed service and I needed to know when it was coming. Still, I'm very pleased with Home Shield and I would recommend the company to anybody. In fact, I have done to a couple of my neighbors. We’re senior citizens and we’re old. We’re on a fixed income and insurance is a must.

We just closed on the house in January and there were already a couple of concerns about three of the appliances. I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and have a look at these issues. It started off okay. The reps were good. They set up a work order and I have no concerns with how AHS handled everything. They set up some service with Sears Home Service and that aspect of it was a total disaster. Sears was completely impossible to work with. The people just did not understand what I needed. I had to call them every week to try to get rescheduled 'cause they would not schedule more than a week out, and I wasn't gonna be in the house for about two months. I don't live in that house. It's a second home. So, I was trying to get things set up for a time that I was actually gonna be out there.
Ultimately, Sears unilaterally cancelled the appointment, so I had no appointment. It was not an American Home Shield problem, other than selecting that vendor. I give American Home Shield some credit. They finally found a vendor that was responsive and we got the work done. The vendor that was chosen, which is a small business in the Portland, Oregon area, was exceptionally good at what they do. I would use them again and will always request them.
It was a little cumbersome that I had to wait until American Home Shield called somebody up or called me back or emailed me with the reassignment of the vendor. That did take a lot of my time. I was probably hours on the phone just trying to get service set up. The other thing that's cumbersome is I'm going through American Home Shield and I'm not talking to people necessarily who are scheduling this that are in the Unites States or fluent in English so it's a little bit of a challenge. Other than that, it really worked out fine and I'm happy with the outcome.

American Home Shield, over the last three to four years, has gotten a lot better and smoother with their claims process as far paying the deductible and sending out people to do the work. I typically do it online, and the only time I’d call it in is if I have a multiple one, but they have to do it for you ‘cause you might have two items that can go up on one vendor so you only have to pay one fee. They have more vendors available now than what they used to have. The vendors come quick, they do their job and go. Air conditioner requests take a little bit longer normally though.
I had an air conditioner issue last year where they wouldn’t pay for the air conditioner to replace. Now, they have a new policy out where they only pay $10 per gallon of Freon for air conditioners being repaired. Two days ago before the policy came out, I went out of pocket ‘cause the vendor was taking so long to come out, and I wanted to get the air conditioner fixed for our tenant. I had to pay $175 a gallon for Freon within that timeframe. I would like to see more of that covered because in the past, they would pay for the Freon but they wouldn’t pay for the haul away, which I understood. But I had to pay $300 and they would have reimbursed me $30. Still, for the most part, I enjoy American Home Shield.

There was a leak coming from one of the pipes that’s connected to our refrigerator and it had been leaking that it has caused mold on the walls, my things and one of the cabinets. I called and spoke with a representative at American Home Shield to submit a claim and it was cool. The first time I called, the rep said that I would need to put a $500 payment to go through but I felt that the payment should have already gone in. The following day, I received the email saying that the payment had been received and it was easier once they received the payment.
The contractor they sent was great too. They pinpointed the problem, were very easy to talk to and were knowledgeable. The guy who came out did what he said he was gonna do. But the home inspector didn’t do a good job so we want them to come back out. So the technician just stopped the leak temporarily and he's supposed to come back out to finish up. Once the home inspector comes back out on Friday, we’re gonna probably call the guy.

The ice machine is not working and I submitted a claim online. The American Home Shield site was easy to navigate. But there is no customer service. The design of their customer service is to deflect the concern of the consumer, not to address it. In the four attempts to reach a management person at American Home Shield to elevate the concern of the lack of response from my initial provider, I was just put on hold and tried to outlast my patience. I was never able to speak to a management person.
My claim is ongoing. The first company who was there four times could never do anything. The second company came and then told us they didn’t work on that kind of equipment, which would have saved us all the time. And as of right now, there’s someone at my home from company three for their follow-up visit, which hopefully resolves the problem.
I’m very disappointed with American Home Shield. I don’t know if they do any research on who agrees to represent them but obviously, there is a disconnect somewhere. I did have an excellent experience with the Pop-A-Lock company that represented them. But my concern has just been over the one thing I’ve tried to fix. And their lack of concern for the consumer who’s paying them for their service is pretty bad. I would not enter into another contract with AHS when this contract is over.
I apologize for the inconvenience Kirk. I just sent you an email to obtain more information about your experience & assist with unresolved issues. I look forward to speaking with you.

AHS sent a contractor within two days to fix our air conditioner. They worked with us with the schedule. The contractors smelled like cigarettes, but other than that, it was fine. They had a drawing and they depicted everything. And then they have to wait and get it approved by AHS. But they were over a $1,000 higher than other people that we've found. So, we're not gonna go with the company sent by AHS for now.
AHS is now trying to approve the cash-out option -- that they would pay it by cash and we would use whatever repair service we wanted to. I don't feel like there's much value to AHS for what you pay monthly. We might as well just put the money in an account, and then we could pay for the repair ourselves. We had a fairly slow leak in the sink and the upstairs bathroom and it was BestWay Mechanical Inc. that came out. The gentleman solved that problem very quickly and easily and did a great job. Things are working perfectly now. I also asked him about two other issues that he helped think through. We had a smell that we thought might be associated with improper venting in our home and he helped talked through what could be possible with that. But he didn’t really take any action, which was understandable.
We also had some sinks where when we turn on the water cold, they would be running cold then a little bit warm and then kinda go back and forth. He mentioned a theory then we went and looked at the hot water heater. It turned out that it was connected improperly. He mentioned that the warranty would probably not cover that so he gave me an estimate for what he thought his company would probably charge for that. He was great. He was professional, courteous, really helpful and prompt.
I submitted this claim to American Home Shield online which was really easy but it felt a little limited in that I was only able to choose from a fairly narrow range of issues related to the plumbing. Then even though I had questions about two issues, possibly three, I was only able to select one. So when the guy got here, I felt like I was kind of ambushing him a little bit. If there had been a way to select more issues, that would have been helpful. But aside from that, it was fine.

I bought my house about a year and a half ago and the prior owner did not do a lot of maintenance on the appliances. The first time the guy came out, he said that it would be a good idea to clean the AC. Though It was working fine, it could break. And I’m gonna get somebody to professionally clean my AC 'cause the last thing I need is for stuff to break down. He also gave me a little walkthrough on how things work. The contractor came in, checked everything out, and explained that he had to order a new ice maker unit or parts for the ice maker. It would take one week and he had to get preapproval for everything. He would contact me when it was ready and come back out. It was on Saturday that he came in and finished it already. Submitting claims with American Home Shield is easy if I request previous companies that have been to my home to come out again. I prefer to use online and it would be a lot easier but I can’t do it. There’s no notes or anything like that where I can type something supplemental like additional information. If I could, I would just say, “Please request the previous plumbing company to come out.” I have to actually make the phone call. The one complaint I have is the hold times when I call for a service call is insane. It’s typically in excess of 20 to 30 minutes.
Language barrier has been awful as well. I got the bat line that now gives me the line for a person from the United States to take the calls. Other than that, I typically get somebody who’s not even stationed in the United States and translation and just communication is brutal. That’s the complaint I had at the very beginning until I kinda learned. Aside from that, follow-up’s been good with the contractor and I haven’t had any other complaints. They wanted us to continue to use the same vendor and it took quite a while for us to get American Home Shield to understand that it was a plumbing issue that needed to be addressed within a shorter period of time.
Also, the lady who was helping us was a little difficult to understand, but she's very kind and she contacted back that original vendor three to four times before they agreed to allow American Home Shield to seek out an additional vendor. The request took us a lot longer than we had hoped, but AHS got a different vendor and the company that came out was quick. They were respectful and they handled the repair fine. I wish that that transition would've been smoother and quicker, but overall, the problem was resolved.

My ice maker on my refrigerator wasn't working and it was dripping too. So, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. It was a very easy process. I put in a request and they called me. But then I stayed on hold forever. Also, it took me two weeks to get somebody on the phone. I'm also not used to paying my deductible before work is done and I didn't like that. Thereafter, I didn't really like the first contractor I got. I had to have the claim resubmitted because he didn’t fix the problem. Still, the second rep who came out identified the problem and fixed it right away.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for a couple years now and so far we're happy with them. When we call for service, we’ve always gotten it. Recently my AC was leaking Freon and it wasn’t cooling, and they had to order a new coil for it. I made the claim over the phone and they were very nice. They would’ve gotten here sooner if they could have, but apparently the part was not easy to find. We just sat in front of a fan until they got the part and got it installed.

The air conditioning was not working and I called American Home Shield to submit the claim. The interaction was a little awkward. They were saying things which wasn’t applicable to the air conditioning. They could probably understand me but I couldn’t understand them. It sounded like they were reading from a script but the more they do it, the better off they’ll be. So, it was okay. The contractor came out a couple of days later and his work was the highest quality. I was impressed with his professionalism. He knew what he was talking about, what he was doing and he was very courteous. Since then, the air conditioning has been good.

AHS arrived to review our problem on our AC. Informed us the problem was not covered under warranty. I believe it was a bad thermostat, and the a coil was clogged real bad but was still functioning. So we paid $100 for the serviceman and had to have a friend clean the a coil and I replaced the thermostat. When we signed up with AHS we informed them that we had 2 structures. The main home and a garage with an apartment on top. We listed the 2 AC systems as part of the warranty service. The sales person never informed us that we needed to pay 2 premiums for having 2 Structures.
Next problem, blower motor went out in the AC in our garage apartment, we contacted AHS and set up a time for the technician to come look. My wife was very specific about the AC being upstairs in the garage apartment because we didn’t want to needlessly pay the $100 fee again! The phone operator assured us we were covered, and set the appointment. The serviceman arrived, I showed him where the unit was, he immediately questioned coverage and began to dial the office. I let him know it was covered. He handed the phone to me where upon the phone operator informed me we weren’t covered because it was a separate structure. The separate structure we informed them of when we purchased the warranty.
The perceived deception angered me and I immediately canceled our coverage on the spot. I nearly got into a confrontation with the serviceman, of which I apologize if he reads this, but my anger was not directed towards him, it was towards the office where the deception occurred. I could tell he wasn’t in a great mood to begin with so I caught myself before it got any uglier, shut my mouth and had my wife call to question why they were denying coverage again, when we informed them of the situation and the 2 structures from the get-go, and before they arrived this time. They said they would look into it and get back within 24 hours, it has been 25 hours now and no response. Still waiting.
Scott and Monica,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory and I hate that we were not able to save you as a customer before the contract was canceled. We hope this experience does not deter you from considering AHS for your home warranty needs in the future.

Bottom line up front: Use a different company than AHS. AC went out on Saturday morning and I submitted a work order through AHS' website. A vendor was assigned and so I called that vendor to schedule an appointment because it was hot and my family needed AC. The vendor told me that due to a contractual agreement with AHS, they could not perform any servicing until Monday. So we sweated out the weekend with fans in all rooms.
Technician came on Monday and got the AC running again but did not fix the underlying issue as the AC broke again on the following Friday (4 days later). Since the technician warrantied their service call/work for 60 days, I called them directly. They said that the work order had already closed out with AHS and that I needed to contact them to initiate a work recall but that they could not get to it until Tuesday since it is a holiday weekend and that they contractually could not accomplish anything for AHS' customers until a normal business day. However, AHS does, in fact, have contracts with vendors that are able to work on the weekends but I was not initially set up with one even though I had made the request on a weekend. Really dumb management flaw.
Anyway, the temps are forecast to get into the mid 90s here so I need to get this situation resolved amicably. I contacted AHS and asked them to fix this situation with either: 1) change vendor to one who is contractually allowed to work on the weekend (because it is their friggin' fault in the first place for setting me up with a poor vendor who could not properly diagnose the issue and complete the work satisfactorily AND who could not contractually work on weekends!) or 2) waive the agreement with current vendor to allow them to be paid for work accomplished on the weekend. Each time I attempted to elevate this to a supervisor, I was disconnected (hung up on as 3 times is no coincidence) with no attempts to call me back. I even asked during the second and third call to have them call me back if we were disconnected. This did not happen.
I decided to write this review before attempting the 4th call. Wish me luck! If issue is not resolved, I will be cancelling my policy and will find any mention of AHS online and write additional reviews plus anyone within my influence will be given advice to steer clear of this company who has exhibited such a shameful way of doing business. For shame AHS! For shame.

I call customer service and all I get is excuses but no explanation. Then I had a guy come out from Precise Conditions and he found the problem right. It was pretty easy. I had also requested a heating service prior to the winter that they offered for $75 where they’d come out, clean, and check it all out. I took the day off, and they didn’t mention it until the tech came out and said that they didn't service the kind of furnace we had. That was unfortunate, but everything else was good. Submitting the claim for the air conditioner that stopped working was easy. The person who took my phone call was able to go ahead and file a claim. I was not really happy with 24 to 48 hours but the next day morning at 7:30, I got a phone call to schedule an appointment between 9:00 and 12:00.
The person called me back about 45 minutes after and said, “Sir, can I come in the next three minutes? I’m in the neighborhood.” He came and finished it and was gone by 10:30. He did his job so quickly and I cannot him thank enough. I was thrilled. It was more than my expectation. I didn’t expect this kind of service. I was thinking somebody was gonna call me in two days and instead someone called me in a few hours and showed up in a few minutes. That’s awesome. I didn’t believe that will happen because there are a lot of complaints but my experience was not same. My experience is ecstatic. I was so happy. The repair gave me peace of mind. The dryer was making this loud, squeaking noise and it wasn’t drying the clothes and the washer has a part that was worn out. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and Affordable Services came out. They replaced the washer parts and they had to order a cap for it. When the cap came, a guy came out and put it on there. He also told me why my dryer wasn’t drying the clothes but it was an item that’s not covered. He said it was under the house to really unstop that tube that goes out. He was right and I went down there, cut it in half, got rid of that part, and put it back together. Now, the dryer and the washer run like they're brand new. I called them and told them that that technician did a great job. He’s very well-experienced in what he does. Also, he was right on time. He did not come in here and try to stay out all day long.
The only bad experience we’ve had with American Home Shield was about the water heater. It went out so I called them and they jumped on it. They got a guy out but he didn’t replace the heater according to the code of the city of Fairview Heights. The code calls for them to add an external tank on top of it in case it goes out. He didn’t put that on there. So, I called American Home Shield. A rep gave me a number to call because they said the mark on the sheet said it was up to code, but it wasn’t. Other than that, everything has been pretty good. I've been with American Home Shield for 18 years and they have been good to me. The price is decent as well.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield online and the day after I made the claim, the contractor was scheduled to come out. The tech was fine. He has been to my house a few times for the previous things. But the last time we had service for the AC, another company came out because he was booked. I've had American Home Shield for about five years and I like to do things on the phone rather than online. But the difficult thing is sometimes getting through and the lines can be busy for extended periods of time, but essentially I have always gotten through. And then 80% of the companies that I’ve had had been pretty good. I’ve had a couple where they were trying to create problems that didn’t exist and charged high prices to fix them.
One company created a fake root problem and an additional $800 charge when they came about a garbage disposal. The person was so rude that I called back American Home Shield and they sent me another plumbing company for a second opinion, and it turned out to be a garbage disposal and nothing else. The guy went to his truck, got out a garbage disposal, changed it, the whole thing was over in half an hour. I have reported the previous company and I’ve asked American Home Shield that I don’t wanna be referred to them again. I do get referred to them periodically, and it bothers me that I cannot refuse that company.
I'd recommend American Home Shield. But when their individual companies come out, you need to be cautious about what the problem is and what they tell you. For example, when the guy came to fix the sink and the job was over, he pointed at something, which I’m not even sure really existed because I never heard about it before. I’ve lived here a long time and I’ve had the same problems before. He told me that there was a funny kind of switch under my sink and he had to get to that pipe, and he would have to charge me $400 extra. But since it was the first time he came out, he would just do it the regular way. That put up a big red flag for me. The company wanted to do these little non-existing root problems. It started out at $800, then they dropped it to $400 when I refused it. The person who was here would not put the estimate in writing. He went through a tantrum. So, I don’t wanna go through anything like that again.
The provider that I'm getting for today is my preferred provider. I was very happy to hear that they came up for this particular job. They’ve always been good and honest. I’ve asked for them before but it seems that American Home Shield rotates their companies. The other backup companies that they’ve sent me were okay, but not as good as the one I’m getting today. But all in all, American Home Shield is a good company. I’m not interested in changing. I haven’t heard anything better about any other companies, and I’m sticking with them.

We’ve had issues off and on with the air conditioner. We have a two-story house and we have two units. In the upstairs, it was fine for me because I get cold. But my daughter and son-in-law have a baby, and he sleeps really hot. So, they would try to drop the temperature down, and it wouldn’t get to that point. American Home Shield sent somebody who checked it one time, and it was dripping. There’s a pipe that goes off the side of the house, and it was dripping all the time. They’ve come to fix that before, too. This guy came and emptied whatever pan it is that collects the drippings, and he cleaned around some coils. He left and and said, “Okay. I did this but I need another approval from American Home Shield. This needs a deeper cleaning. The coils, and whatever, and whatnot, needs a deeper cleaning. But I can’t do it without the prior approval.” They got the approval and it was fine. He came back and did that deep cleaning.
That wasn’t enough though. He ended up having to come back. AHS gave the approval immediately. They just sent him back because he had to do a pressure check, and it ended up needing more refrigerant. And so, we ended up paying for two things of that. AHS covers $10 worth of that and then, we paid the rest of it. But he finally got it, and the air conditioner's finally doing what it’s supposed to do. And there’s no drips, and everything’s working great.
Submitting claims with AHS is the simplest process ever. I just go online and click on a couple of buttons. The only thing is when they have to get approval for something, they’re gonna do more. I would just think that it could be a quick phone call and not days of getting the approval. Other than that, one of AHS's contractors, Rutan, has been great. We’ve had others as well, and we’ve had several air conditioning things in the years that we’ve lived here but Rutan stands out. Their guy was persistent enough to insist that these things needed to be done, and he got it fixed. We’re moving and closing on this house in a couple of weeks, and my intent is to keep American Home Shield. Sometimes, it’s like we spend this money on the service fee, but if it’s something big, to me, it’s worth it.

My air conditioner was leaking and it needed to be fixed. But when I went to submit the claim for that, my experience was horrible. First of all, I wasn’t aware that American Home Shield has changed such that you have to pay them before and then I had an issue with that. They’ve also moved the customer service to the Philippines. You can hardly understand them and they don’t understand you. I got hung up on four times. American Home Shield should let people know that they've changed the customer service to the Philippines or if you can’t understand them and you asked for someone in the United States, they should give you to someone in the United States so you can get your situation taken care of.
The first technician who came out from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was horrible. I had to get a second one sent out from the same company and he was perfect. He was more professional. But the first one was rude. When I asked him if he would come in and look at the leak in my bathroom, he said no because he was not leaving his tools outside. Then he didn’t wanna come upstairs and look at what was going on. When I asked if he would clean all of it, he said I could do what I wanted to do, that it would probably dry and that they were tired. I asked how long he thought it was gonna be and he said, "Well, if I could go ahead and get started.” Then when he said he was done, he asked if I wanted him to check the Freon and I said, "Yes, please."
But I let him know that the leak in the bathroom is not where the pan is and that he had to change the pan where the leak is because this had happened before. The person who did it before let me know and it’s my house. I’ve lived in the house for over 15 years and I know where my air conditioner is located in my house. I was trying to tell him that. But he was mean. When he came in to look then he said that that’s where the pan is. Then he went to my hallway from out of my bathroom in another area of the house. He was trying to get his bearings and he turned around in a circle but he couldn't figure out. He said, “Well, you’re not gonna believe me.” I was trying to show him where it had leaked before where the air conditioner is but he just walked out. I was so shocked because I had never had that type of service before.
So I went in the garage where he was and I asked if he was upset. He kept saying he wouldn't talk to me anymore. I asked if he was gonna at least check the Freon. But he continued saying he wasn't going to talk anymore and then he left. I’ll probably be finding me another service company because I’m paying American Home Shield too much a month then I have to pay upfront and it's ridiculous the way I was treated through the whole process.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

AHS's monthly rate has been getting a little steep. In the future, I’m gonna have to think about whether I wanna renew my contract or not. Because by the time I look at what I’m paying plus the $100 deductible for a call, it adds up very quickly. Even so, recently we had a breakdown in our air conditioning system and we phoned in a claim to AHS. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out, had a look at the unit, figured out what the problem was and then repaired it. He had to change the capacitor on it and the motor fan but then the unit has been working okay since.
Good morning Nana,

American Home Shield sent an email and I looked it up. There was a link in there and I requested a service from there. They sent Romanos HVAC for preventive maintenance. They did great and were very professional. It’s not like they were rushing things. They tried to explain a lot of stuff for me. It was a good experience. But the same can't be said for my other claim. I had a different issue and another company that was contracted by American Home Shield came out. I had a terrible experience with that one. I send out a feedback but I’m not sure what happened to that.

I've been very pleased with American Home Shield. They've helped me with different things with the house. This time, I had a water heater claim through Sundance. I didn’t have any hot water and I had to wait a week before I could get some. I was hoping it would be a little sooner but they came when they had their first opening and the gentleman did a fantastic job on it. He checked this and that, and cleaned up everything. I was very impressed. This was an old water heater and when I purchased this home, I had lukewarm water to have a shower. I thought that was just the way they had set the thing. But it kept getting cooler and cooler then one day, I got in there and it was just ice-cold. This thing had been going out for some time and I didn’t even know it. So I did purchase a new heater.
The contractor said that the units were out and he could put those in but he said “however” and he talked about how sometimes when you redo those and they’ve gone off for a period of time, you end up with having rust at the bottom of your tank and then you end up having rust when you have your shower. As we went through all of the things, I thought about it and I told him to make sure to put the date on there so that I have it. It was very nice. The gentleman was extremely informative and he took a lot of time to help me with it. I really appreciated it. He was a wonderful man.

I contacted American Home Shield for an air conditioning unit tune-up. The technicians who came were very polite and professional. I have two units and one of them also started acting up pretty much as I made the appointment. The guy ended up doing two things at the same time. With American Home Shield, you need to put in another order in order to do two jobs. The thing with this warranty is the monthly cost. There’s the premium and on top of that, each time you call, you pay the contractor $75 for the visit.

The air conditioning was not cooling recently and Cecil and Sons came out to service the request. I called, they took the information and scheduled to come out. I didn't hear from anybody, so I called back at American Home Shield to find out when Cecil and Sons was coming out. They then set it up for last Thursday. The service I received was good, though I still have no air conditioning. The tech was saying it was gonna cost me $2,800 to get it fixed, whereas it would make more sense to a get whole new unit. American Home Shield said they were not gonna do that, so I'm waiting to get an appointment for somebody to come back out and repair it. I sent the email yesterday and I still haven't heard from anybody. I'm very dissatisfied.
Good morning Ginell,
Your concerns are understood in regard to the noncovered cost that has been quoted to complete the air conditioner repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.
