The contractors that AHS sent for the garage door were very good, precise and they finished what needs to be repaired. It was fine. Everything was good. Their work was efficient. But I’m not happy with American Home Shield’s new policy of the $70 fee for the technician that comes out. But everything else was fine. Their quality of service is good.

The garage door opener’s remote wasn’t working properly and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. Ace’s Garage Door came out the next day. The rep explained everything that was going on why it was not working and he took care of it that day. Since the repair, everything has been working great. It was a really good experience.

My dryer was not working and when I requested for service over the phone, the interaction with the rep was good. I called on the 4th of July, and the first company American Home Shield gave me wasn't gonna come out 'till next Thursday and I needed to do laundry. They finally got me another company that came out today, but they gave me a timeframe from 8:00 to 5:00, so I had to call out of work. When the tech came over, he looked at my dryer and he had to order a part. He was very nice and professional and he's gonna come back next Tuesday, but it's the same 8:00 to 5:00 and it'd be nice if they gave an 8:00 to 10:00, so I'd tell my boss I'm coming in late. I wish somebody came up sooner and gave me a better timeframe. The problem also hasn't been fixed yet, but hopefully, they're able to fix it once the part comes in.

I submitted a claim online to AHS for our dishwasher that wouldn’t close. Navigating through the website was fine. It said that I would be contacted within 24 hours. But if I was not, AHS gave the name of the vendor and I could call them. I had gone online on a Saturday. I waited until Monday, called the contractor, they talked me through the scheduling and scheduled an appointment. They came out, saw the problem, ordered the part and came back in when the part was in. It seems to be fine now. AHS has been right on the money. If I contact them, they send the vendor and they have been fine with me fixing it or even replacing the item as necessary. I have no problems with AHS.
Good afternoon Beth,

My husband called an AC claim in to American Home Shield and although it took the contractor a little bit longer to come out, the gentleman explained that they had been so booked up because a lot of air conditioners had been breaking down. So I understood that. Besides, he was a good guy. He showed me the problems. Plus he took me outside and showed me what he was gonna have to do to fix it. Instead of just saying what he was going to do, he showed me and I liked that. Then that was what he did. We had to pay some more though. Altogether, we paid about 396.60 but we're happy because we got the problem taken care of and the AC was fixed. It is working right now. We're satisfied.

The air conditioner was working but it wasn’t blowing. I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield by making a phone call. The claims reps took my complaint and then they sent out a tech from Air Conditioning & Heating Wizards. The guy that I spoke with initially said it’d be like a week for a contractor to come out. And I said, “Well, we have elderly parents in our home that are on oxygen. We really need it done quickly.” And he was able to send somebody out to check it on a Sunday which was only a couple of days. And then, the tech came out and he wasn’t able to fix it that day due to the fact that the part had to be ordered. So, that came in on like a Tuesday and he fixed it that day.
The tech did a great job. He came out as scheduled and found out exactly what the problem was. He wasn’t here very long. And then, he ordered the part and he gave me exact timeframes of when it would come. It came as early as the first time he thought it would come. He came out right away, put it on, and then he left. It was all perfect. Not all my experiences with the warranty company has been like that, but that particular one was really great. American Home Shield exceeded my expectations and the contractor was very professional. I've been pleased with all the work so far and we would not hesitate and have considered renewing for the following year.

We filed a claim. It took them a week to come look at our AC. Then they want to charge us over $400 to fix our AC. My husband is HVAC certified and what they are trying to fix isn’t even the underlying problem. Not to mention our AC is over 19 years old. Terrible do not use this company.
Hi Alyssa,
Your concerns are understood regarding the service experienced to have the air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Our AC went out yesterday and even though we live in Florida and we're under a heat advisory, the earliest we can get someone out to even LOOK at the AC is five days from now. So their 24 hour emergency service promise is bogus. I have called multiple times just trying to get someone to help and there has been no help whatsoever. They contract the work out to people who don't give a damn and have horrendous customer service. Then AHS does nothing to help. I believe this is their business model so the customer will get frustrated enough to pay for it themselves. The unbelievable frustration I have had over this makes me realize having this warranty is just not worth it.
Hi Ron,

When my A/C broke down in 100-degree heat index summer on a Friday morning, I was told that they couldn't commit to finding someone for same day service because "it's Friday". The technician told me that they aren't contracted for weekends so it would be Monday before he could get there. I spent 25 minutes on hold because they didn't know who I should talk to about a complaint.
Ultimately, I was able to reach someone on Facebook Messenger and the social media department handled the complaint by saying that this was within the standard of service. There is no option in their phone prompt to talk to someone about an existing contract issue. I was finally able to reach a competent person by pressing the option for the sales department. I cancelled my contract but gave an opportunity for someone to speak to me about my experience and offer some customer service. There was going to be a long wait time to talk to someone and then nobody called me back within 24 hours. Overall, poor relationships with vendors (I was able to get someone to my home in under 30 minutes and the repair was done in under an hour), poor organization, poor customer service and a big waste of my time.
Good evening Irene,
I apologize for your experience with AHS. We appreciate your feedback and will be using your review as a tool to make our customer service experience better. Thank you for allowing AHS to service you and your home. Have a great evening.

We've had American Home Shield forever. Submitting a claim and paying upfront have been easy. We like all that. We recently had an oven that was broken and the contractor said it was fixed, but it still didn't work. The tech came back and worked on it. But now we have two broken ovens. We were out of town for a little bit and we didn't hear from them at all. We finally called them back and we are supposed to get a callback from them. But we're pretty confident that it's gonna be resolved because for most of our things, we've been satisfied with the resolutions we got from American Home Shield.

If I could give a negative 5 star I would. I requested service on my dishwasher 6/19, technician came out the next day. They had to order parts, I was already not happy at the turn around time. They came out again when the parts arrived and I had to wait for another service call which was 7/2. Tech was supposed to be 1-5pm. He called saying he would be late between 630-700p. He arrived at 730p. Took the parts out of the box and realized he needed a seal, again needed to order parts. Now waiting again for the parts. When they arrive the tech did inform us they were booking service calls out 12 days... I am now fuming. I called AHS. 1st call got hung up on. 2nd call stated I needed to talk to supervisor. They put me on hold for 1 1/2 hours with no updates, then hung up on me. I called again. They said a customer client relations would call me the next day.
Around 1030 they hadn't called so I called in, I explained my situation that I should not have to wait a month to get an everyday appliance working. I requested they consider replacing the dishwasher, the person stated they could do a cash payout. I said I was interested. She said her supervisor was at lunch and she would call back at noon. I waited and no call so I called in again. The next person I talked to asked numerous questions as they all did every time. I stated all the info should be on my acct, I was at work and was tired of explaining everything to every person I talked to every time. I asked for a supervisor. She stated they would not replace my dishwasher and when asked for her supervisor she stated her supervisor was in a meeting and I should call back in an hour. I stated a supervisor was supposed to call me an hour ago and I could not call back in, wait on hold, explain everything again and be told some other excuse.
I told her I needed to talk to a supervisor now or I would file a formal complaint, she said she would get them. After 25 minutes on hold I hung up as I had to return to work. The previous person called me back at 130 (the one who said they would call at noon), stated they could offer me $150-200 for replacement. I have paid my service call and have lost $280 in time off of work and now am going to lose another half day, plus they will have paid 3 service calls, and I looked up the parts $257. Are you kidding me. That’s a ton of $. They refuse to replace dishwasher and I have to wait a month!!!! Absolutely unacceptable!!! Such poor customer service!!!

The idea of an insurance policy with American Home Shield was great, coverage for appliances, etc. When we actually had issues, they didn't come to the party and took ages to actually give us an answer. We spent hours on the phone being transferred, pushed on, etc. until eventually we just got hung up on and had to start from square one. They give you short term fixes but don't actually cover replacing an item. Therefore you're left with at most a years solution for your appliance. It wasn't what we were after. I felt we were sold the world and then when we needed to make a claim, it was a waste of time. We finally got so frustrated, we just purchased the new appliance they were supposed to fix that was listed under our policy. I wouldn't waste my money renewing our policy. Good in theory, not in practice.

We really like American Home Shield. We started using it with a rental home we had in Stillwater, and it worked out so well there. With the response and the quality of people they use, there’s no reason not to use it. Submitting claims online is very easy. I recently made one for my air conditioner, but it ended up being a plumbing issue. We had an on-demand water heater go out and American Home Shield covered it, and we had a new on-demand water heater system put in. I called in on a weekend, and the contractor came out Monday. They spent time looking at it, investigating and making sure they knew what was going on. They tried to help us, so I was pretty impressed with those guys.

I had my recent claim for the air conditioner expedited through American Home Shield. The service schedule was adjusted four days and the contractor came out. The air conditioner was making a noise. But the contractor didn't fix anything. They just put Freon in it and tried to sell me a new one for 30 minutes. It was disappointing that they didn't do anything about whatever was causing the noise. But as long as the air conditioner is running and cooling, then that’s fine. The tech was courteous but he was a salesman. But American Home Shield's service is always good. I've had them since 2003, so I'm a solid customer for years.

I've had two claims thus far with American Home Shield. One gentleman came out pretty quickly to repair my air conditioning. Both units were out. He quickly repaired one that day and had to order a compressor for the second unit. However, it took three weeks for that part to come in. I had another gentleman that replaced my washing machine and it was the same problem. He said that it takes a long time for them to get the authorization from American Home Shield. Whoever authorizes the work leaves the contractor hanging for a while. They're left on the phone 45 minutes, 30 minutes during their day while they're supposed to be working. The problem goes back to the service people 'cause people get mad at them. Still, I loved the guy who came for my air conditioner. he provided great service and now we have a new unit. We submitted a claim with American home Shield for the air conditioner because it stopped working and the drains were plugged up on it. The claim was pretty easy to submit online and somebody was scheduled to come out within a day or two. It was super fast. The air conditioning guy who came was fantastic. He was super quick, took care of the problem, and gave me some ideas for longer-term things because we were talking about potentially replacing the unit eventually. He was super informative.
The air conditioner has been fine since then. I haven't gone up to check on it, with the exception of the following day. But we’re definitely gonna keep an eye on it because it leaked through our ceiling a little bit. We don’t want that to happen again. We had an AC issue and the AC company originally contracted explained it over the phone that the issue sounded more like an electrical one. American Home Shield switched the order to electrical and the electrician came out. He said, “No. It’s not electrical, it’s AC.” He didn't even know why they would switch it over to electrical without even having somebody come out. Then the order went back to the original AC order and they sent another technician saying that the compressor has to be replaced. American Home Shield ordered a compressor as of last Tuesday, and I suppose they’re gonna come in tomorrow to fix it. My AC is still off and it’s been off for over a week already. But we had another claim and American Home Shield did pretty well on that.

We have had no problems with American Home Shield at all since we've had them. It's very easy to go online and request an appointment. Every time that I requested with them, we would get a call in 24 hours from who needed to do the repair.
The gentleman from the company that AHS sent didn't speak great English. So, there was a little bit of a language barrier at first. I didn't know if he really knew what he was doing. He first thought it was just Freon that needed to be replaced but then he realized that our outside unit was working harder than it needed to be. So, a part needed to be replaced and they thought that was what was causing the inside to freeze up. I had to get an approval from American Home Shield because I also had to pay a large amount of money. I got about $1,000 just because of the Freon. AHS didn't cover it except 10 cents per unit. It was very minimal but I knew that beforehand. When they called, they explained it to me again and I understood. The contractor came back about four business days later and they were able to fix it. Since then, I have not noticed any issues and I'm crossing my fingers that all is good.

My air conditioning unit had a couple of problems with Freon freezing around with the pipes on the outside. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield on a Friday and within an hour, someone contacted me to schedule the service. But weekends are not covered, so they rescheduled for the following Monday. The technician was very knowledgeable and he was able to explain what was going on and some of the potential problems.

One of our AC units was blowing warm air. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and went through a very simple process. Piedmont Mechanical was at our place the next day which was amazing. A lot of the times, it's three or four days waiting time for the AC inspector to get things fixed. The guy who came was fantastic, he diagnosed the problem and found that there was a small leak. We had the AC looked at a couple of years ago and the company that did it added freon. Piedmont's tech said that the previous contractor didn't find the leak and fix it and if he just adds Freon, I would end up having to have a contractor out again. When he found the leak, he fixed it and showed me where it was. He was very thorough.
Good Morning Jason,

There was a pipe in the kitchen that was not really working well. The house lady at that time and the landlord don’t live there. And it seemed like it was a problem that wasn’t fixed for a couple of times in the past and other plumbers said that they couldn’t fix it. So, it was an ongoing issue. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online, and the contractor they sent from Georgia Star fixed the problem, which was great. And this time, it looks like the problem was solved.

My air conditioning unit wasn’t working. I submitted a claim to AHS and the contractor wasn’t able to fix it because he said the unit was no good. The heat wasn’t pumping air in. They said I had to pay 3,300 some dollars, I could go through them and pay that right away to get it fixed. And I don’t have $3,000, so I just said, “Forget it.” But I paid them $100 for nothing.
My experience with the contractor was great though. He was very helpful in telling me what I could do. He gave me the information on how I could do the whole upgrade thing with American Home Shield. Unfortunately, American Home Shield did not have a process where I could still get it fixed and maintain it. So, that was the only downfall.
The only thing I don’t like is the idea that if they can't do anything about it, I still winded up being out of $100 and I don’t get my money back. I'm very dissatisfied. It’s just not fair. It’s already the way I'm spending $49 a month with AHS, but then to tell me I gotta pay $100 for the contractors to come out for the service and then they can't fix it. Now, I'm out of 150.

I have no issues with the customer service department, you know the one you call to get questions answered. However, the authorizations department is below average. I received a call regarding my dishwasher from them and they said they would call me back... two weeks, still no word. So, I fixed it myself. I was super happy to pay $75 to do that. Onto the second call, I have been waiting for two weeks for my authorization for the contractor to be authorized to fix my washer. I have called 5 times and said ** it. My contractor has been calling as well. The customer service dept has told me they have emailed the authorization dept multiple times, and still no word.
Needless to say, as soon, or should I say if, my washer ever gets fixed, I will be canceling. NO ONE should be treated like this from a “supposedly” great company. Two Weeks without a washer? The contractor showed the next day and they were great. The authorization department... their management needs to be reviewed and of course they cannot be reached. So, I’m done. Great Job, I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau.

At 11 months into our 12 month contract our service tech informed us that a capacitor on one of our Heat Pumps needed to be replaced at a cost of about $85. We contacted American Home Shield and after they pulled up our policy we were told there would be a $75 service call fee for a repair person to come and take a look. Then there would be a 2nd $75 service call fee when they came back to replace the $82.00 item. How ridiculous. We will NOT be renewing our policy after this year.

AHS contracts with substandard companies. The reputable companies avoid dealing with AHS because of the paperwork and delays in getting paid. My function but old HVAC system was repeatedly put back together with duct tape and bailing wire methods. One service provided replaced the thermostat but left the connecting wires exposed to the unit on top of the house; another company ruined by gutters with their ladders when servicing the HVAC system. I paid a policy with AHS for 25 years and suggest that you do not get duped as I did and put the money you would spend on a plan away for emergencies.

Our water heater broke down last week. We contacted the Home Shield company and reported our issue. They sent a plumber to our house Thursday last week and we haven’t heard back from them since. Our claim is still under review and we’ve been out of hot water for two weeks now, which sucks when you live in a country where you can access hot water. We’ve been calling the company each day in hopes to hear about whether or not they will replace the water heater and they still have no clue when and keep telling us the same story about how we need to wait for them to review the claim etc. I am about to cancel services with this company and am looking for a reputable and reliable homeowners insurance company.

I had my a/c go out over two weeks ago. They sent a contractor out who had no idea how to test or seemed to know how to work on an a/c. He just left stating he had no idea and told me to call American Home Shield to send someone else out. The second contractor came out approximately 3-4 days later and he looked at the unit and without a proper diagnosis (only visual) told me we need a new a/c. Granted it's an older unit but my best guess just doing my own research is that a drain is clogged (it's leaking on the floor). Neither technician even tested my drain lines. I have been calling American Home Shield for the fifth time today (over a week) and I get someone new every time. Early last week they told me they were waiting for the diagnosis from the second company they sent.
Late last week they told me they received the diagnosis and that it is in the claims department and that they will be calling me within 24 hours. Three days later, today, no word so I called them again. This time the representative told me they are waiting for the diagnosis again. So someone is obviously lying about this or they are giving me the runaround. Meanwhile I have a very sick wife who is going in for a medical procedure tomorrow and our house is boiling hot. This is disgraceful of Home Shield, especially after being a customer for twenty years. My heart bleeds for my wife, who has to come home from her serious condition into a house that has no air and is in the mid-90s outside. Thanks Home Shield for caring so much for a few extra bucks. Everyone out there be pre-warned of how they are. Would love to get a response from them on this.

Had a sump pump fail in my basement which resulted in my basement flooding. Called my home insurance USAA and they had a water mitigation team there that day. It took AHS a day before they got back to me just to state that they could not find anyone, that I could find my own contractor, and that it could not be one of the contractors they do not approve of. AHS gave me authorization to hire an outside contractor for which they would reimburse me for the cost of the installation minus my service fee. I went through all the hoops they put up, got the contractor to call into AHS before he proceeded with the work just to make sure it was authorized.
Once the work was performed I submitted my invoice for reimbursement on 05/20/19 and received an email response that same day at 2:41 pm that my invoice was received and it would be processed in the order it was received. I called customer service in the middle of June just to inquire of the status of my reimbursement and was told that it would take 30 days from receipt of my invoice for processing.
It is now 07/02/19 and I spoke to a customer service representative at 1:20 pm and was told there is no account of my invoice being received. I repeated word for word from the email I received stating my invoice was received "Thank you for your email. American Home Shield is in receipt of your invoice, and all submissions will be worked in the order they are received. Sincerely, American Home Shield" on 05/20/19, yet all the customer Rep could do was make a note to accounting for someone to call me. At this point I am sick and tired of playing cat and mouse games with AHS customer service reps just to be told no one has an idea of it or when I would be reimbursed for the work I had done. I have cancelled both of my accounts for the two properties I own and will state that this was terrible customer service.

I just purchased a home that has an air conditioner unit installed in the wall that cools a wine cellar in the basement. The wine cellar is a large walk-in room, approximately 10'x 15'. A "wall air conditioner" or "Wall Unit AC" is specifically covered under my home warranty contract. The unit is not working so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. They sent an HVAC contractor out and the technician had no idea how to diagnose or fix my Wall AC Unit. I spoke with him on the phone and he said he considered it an appliance, not an AC unit. Even if they considered it a wine refrigerator, which it is not, my contract specifically includes "all components and parts of a refrigerator, including wine and wet bar refrigerators."
I called American Home Shield two different times and neither person was helpful and they kept telling me my unit was not covered under the warranty and that if I wanted a second opinion, I would have to pay another service fee for them to come out. They are worthless. I feel that this $750 warranty is just a scam and a waste of money.
Good afternoon James,

I have had AHS for at least the past 3 years. I have had no more than 1 service call per year. Each year, the deductible has increased. The services companies they use are mediocre, at best and most of them overcharge for the additional parts or services that you must pay for. So, not only are you paying your AHS premium and a $125 deductible, you are also paying whatever the additional fees are from the service provider which have been substantially higher than local competitors I've called.
FINALLY, when I finally decided to cancel the coverage at the END of a contract (chose not to renew), I was charged with a cancellation fee. I argued that it was at the end of the contract and you were paid through the end of the month so there shouldn't be a fee. I was told they charge an administration fee to handle the cancellation contract paperwork. THUS, I'M TELLING YOU NOT TO DEAL WITH THEM, THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE MONEY YOU SPEND AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS ALWAYS BEEN POOR!!!
Good Morning Ebony,
I certainly apologize that we were not able to reach a suitable resolution for you before the contract was canceled. We hope this situation does not discourage you from considering AHS for your future home warranty needs. Thank you for allowing AHS to service you.

The contractor assigned was giving a timeline of three business days to visit for an emergency pipe leak that was spoiling our floor and ceiling in basement. On calling another assigned, came and refuse to fix the garbage disposal where the leak was as he wanted money outside insurance. I called and cancelled my contract after this but they still billed me for the next month. When I called again they said there is no record of me cancelling. They put me for another years contract with higher monthly pay, without even asking me. Let me also add that they do not have any email, chat or written support on their website so there is no written record of what the customer is telling them. There is also no way for you to remove payment from your account. Worse home warranty company. Save you more than $800/year and if something breaks in the house just get it fixed, a dishwasher/microwave or garbage disposal repair will not cost you more than that.

I have had AHS since I bought my house back in 2016. I have only called them 3 times and in all 3 instances it was a horrible experience. The first time was for my water pump, they told me it would take them 2 weeks to get someone to my house. I had to arrange someone to come fix that myself. I'm on a well and no water for 2 weeks is unacceptable. The second time it was for a microwave. Another headache to get them to fix it. The third time and still ongoing has been my A/C. I placed my first call to them on April 16, 2019. It is now July 2nd and my A/C is still not working. The first guy to come fix it told me it was a clogged line, he then blew air down the pipe and said the problem was fixed. Nothing came out the other side and I pointed that out to him. He said that many times there's nothing to see. Long story short, he left, the next day my closet was flooded.
I called AHS back. They didn't want to acknowledge the fact their technician had caused more damage rather than fixing the problem. He came back a week later and told me they needed a drip pan. From that day until now, I have called them every week about this. AHS has given me the run around for almost 3 months now. Every call is the same. "I am sorry sir," "So sorry," "I will escalate this issue," "I will call the service provider," "A manager will call soon," "It will be fixed this time," "I will refund your service call," "We will make sure all is addressed and so on..." Been going on for 76 days now. I asked to speak with a local office and the "supervisor" told me there's no local office. All of their operations is in the Philippines... I guess there's no accountability here for the mess they do. Do yourselves a favor and never contract with them. It will be a ton of frustration every time you need to use them. Waste of your money!!!

Update on 01/03/2020: This is an update to an earlier review. To recap: After dozens of calls to AHS and NUMEROUS unsatisfactory vendor visits, we were finally promised a new HVAC to replace our failing 16-year-old system. We live out of state and our tenant had gone three months without air. After my review posted We were promised a WHOLE NEW SYSTEM. What we didn't realize was that only part of the system was replaced, as neither AHS nor the vendor shared that part with us. Not surprisingly, the malfunctions began IMMEDIATELY after replacement. The cycle started again and we wondered if we were given a dud.
It's now been over six months of continued problems and our tenant is now without heat! We cannot afford to come out of pocket to replace this unit again, which is why we've invested into AHS for over 13 years! The current vendor on the case (who happened to do the partial replacement last year) is doing everything possible to avoid completing a full diagnostic (even after several visits). They either avoid our calls or find some reason not to enter the house when they are there. Yesterday's (new) excuse was that they couldn't enter the attic because it was too dark (this seems odd given that they made the appointment during their own working hours and carry no lights).
This is what me and my family have been dealing with for nearly one year, and the tenant is the one paying the price. Can and will American Home Shield deliver on its promises? We have paid SO much money in premiums, deductibles, untold amounts of freon, as well as the replacement unit deductible - we have literally paid for several good HVAC systems by now. Please fix this problem once and for all and use someone reputable! We are so wearied and frustrated.
Original Review: The cooling system in our rental home (3 BA house) malfunctioned on May 2, prompting a call to AHS for service. Three different companies ended up coming by the home over a span of five weeks - the first one dropped off the planet after promising a compressor, the second one wouldn't touch the unit, and the third one eventually installed a new compressor, which did not solve the problem. Now the issue has become the exhaust fan, and two new companies have gotten involved (with a new deductible). Hence, the cycle begins again and the problem is still not fixed.
The tenants, who have been extremely patient, are approaching 60 days without proper air, and are depending on window units, which restrict them to living in certain parts of the home. They would have grounds for breaking their lease. We are offering them concessions while we wait for AHS to do its job. Communicating with AHS has been, for us, like steering a whale - you just get dragged around. Supervisors never call you back (good luck asking to speak to one), and each rep speaks as if they're all reading the same script. The answer is always the same: "we're sending someone out". I've heard that more times than anyone should.
It is likely that this unit (now 16 years old) needs to be replaced, but AHS avoids this and continues to contract with low-rep companies who bandage the issue, if they do the work at all. No matter how much I explain the situation, it does not seem to matter that weeks have passed without resolution; AHS is perfectly fine keeping this train going as long as possible. To add insult to injury, after everything, I recently received a letter from AHS saying that the compressor wasn't covered by the warranty. What? Why not tell me that when I was calling a dozen times? I'm fed up with a company that has collected enough money from me over the years to pay for two new units (with only two claims in ten years). The stress on my tenants, the property manager (who has also been fighting with AHS), and my family is unwarranted. Should someone from AHS choose to respond to this, please do not tell me again that you're sending someone out!
Your concerns are more than understood in regard to your American Home Shield experience to have the air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

Usually the machine has a very smooth noise. But my machine's noise was not as smooth. I don't want it to stop working. So, I called American Home Shield. Their representatives were good. I needed to express what happened very clearly so I liked to call and talk to some person. Even if my English is not good, we could communicate and the rep could understand what happened and what service that I needed. So I like that.
The guy who came out found the issue. There was a part that seemed to need a repair. So he changed the item. And the air conditioner now works. My air conditioner is older. And I always have problem with air conditioning. On weekends, the contractors are not working. And if it's Friday and you have problem, you need to bear the whole weekend. Also, I’ve always had great luck with the contractor companies. When I haven’t heard from the company, AHS will say I’ll get a text right away. Their communication’s great when you don’t have to deal with a call center that is in another country, which I’ve been very frustrated with. When I speak to someone stateside when I have an issue, right after I hang up or I place the claim online, I get a text saying so-and-so will be contacting me soon to set up an appointment. And if for some reason that company hasn’t responded, American Home Shield has a backup company.
Going online, whether you're doing a virtual chat with somebody or doing a claim yourself, is also pretty easy. I had a heating and cooling company one time and Mike did awesome. He has helped me before with my pool equipment. Super knowledgeable, great communication and always easygoing. He’s like, “I can get out there tomorrow,” and not, “Two weeks, I can come out there”. The claim is still in process, but prior to that when we had to replace another pump for the pool, it was great. He was very thorough, punctual, professional and I’ve not had a problem since.

My AC wasn't turning on so I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. A-US Air Conditioning got to my daughter's location outside of Dallas immediately which surprised me. They had local technicians there and the guy who came was very helpful. He explained everything to my daughter and her grandmother in terms that both of them could understand. They were able to fix the issue during that visit.
While AHS came highly recommended over other services to me, my first interaction caught me off guard. They do key service and for $75 I would get seven door keys and locks. They set me up with one of the local vendors and said that I should get an appointment within 48 hours. I didn't get one but they sent an email telling me who the vendor was. I then called the vendor directly to see when they were gonna set up an appointment. However, they said they didn't have requisitions for me. The reps there told me to call my warranty people and get them to put a requisition in.
I called AHS and the rep said that the vendor has 72 hours. I said no they didn't have 72 hours. Instead, it's 48. I told the rep that the vendor has been waiting on AHS to call and that was all she had to do so I could get the rekeying done. The lock people had said they had an availability on Friday. The AHS rep told me to hold on for a minute and she was gone for a long time. She finally came back to tell me that there is no vendor in my area who could come out and see me. I told her that wasn't true as I had just talked to the rekeying vendor and that the rekeying vendor had talked to her and told me her name. She told me that they would get me set up with somebody else.
I called back my local vendor and said that I had talked to someone from AHS about getting my locks changed and said that AHS was saying they don't service my area. The rep from the local vendor said that wasn't true. She said there was an issue with my warranty service. I followed everything up, but I got lied to. The AHS rep said there would be somebody within 48 hours. There wasn't and it wasn't until the next Monday before my rekeying got taken care of.

Precision Appliance Repair came out for the washing machine. There was a load of clothes in the washing machine and it had filled up with water but then it wouldn’t run after that. I submitted the claim for that with American Home Shield and within a very short time, I had someone contacting me to get it repaired. The man who came out to the house was excellent. He asked me what was wrong and I told him then he very quickly determined what was wrong. He explained to me everything that he was going to do and what was wrong, and he got it fixed within a very short period of time. It was just one-day’s delay in getting the clothes washed. The washing machine has taken care of itself since and it works real good.

I’ve had to use American Home Shield quite often within the last year with my property. I also had American Home Shield a few years ago in a previous property. And I'm very happy with the service. When I first bought the house, the previous owners had another company. It was one of American Home Shield's competitors and they weren’t as good. Their coverage and their plans weren’t as good, which is why I switched. The only drawback of the service with American Home Shield is that sometimes, it can be two or three days before the contractor can get out. Aside from that, I also had a water issue late on a Sunday night and I couldn’t get hold of anyone from American Home Shield because they were closed. I desperately needed an emergency callout so I had to go through my own pocket on that one. Emergency callout is a tough one but that's the one other thing. Other than that, I’m very happy with the service and I would recommend it to anyone.
For our most recent claim, we originally submitted for a technician for the dryer because it had stopped working. But when he came, he determined it was a low voltage issue and not an issue with the dryer. So I contacted American Home Shield by phone and explained what the situation was and they switched the ticket from appliance to electrical. They organized Electrotech to come out and within 24 hours, the electrician and his helper were out. They were very friendly, polite and professional. They were also very safety-conscious because they were dealing with a live electrical breaker panel. One person was working on the panel and the other was standing by with an insulated tool to pull him off in case there was a case of electrocution. I was very happy with the quality of work and their mindset of safety. The breaker and the dryer work now.

AAction Air Conditioning & Heating came out for my AC system. They told me that some of my ducts were loose and something had tore one of them. But they said that American Home Shield didn’t cover it because it wasn’t wear and tear. And they wanted to charge me 300 something dollars, and I declined it because I didn’t feel it was right to be charged 300 something dollars for something I couldn’t control. I don’t know what is under the house or on top of the house. And I wasn’t too thrilled when I called somebody, which I thought was professional to handle it and let me know the right thing.
I had another claim with American Home Shield and it really wasn’t too satisfying. I had something going on with my toilet. And I paid my $100 because if I’m gonna have a warranty and that’s my deductible, that’s what I’m gonna pay. And so, the gentleman came out for my toilet. And being a female, I don’t know that much about everything. So, because it was leaking, I asked him to check the toilet. Two weeks later, I had to pay Lowe’s to replace the toilet. For $100, the guy that AHS sent stayed here maybe 15 minutes, and he changed the supply line that went from the toilet to the floor with a shut off valve to get my problem solved. So, I paid $100 for an $8 thing. I had to buy the same part when Lowe’s put my toilet in. I paid Lowe’s $99 for the installation, and I paid American Home Shield $100 for the $10 supply line.
So, both of my experiences thus far have not been too satisfying. I will give AHS a call. When you’re new at being a homeowner, things are gonna happen and so you try to trust your judgment to professionals. And when you feel like somebody is really trying to get some extra money, that doesn’t sound good to me. And I told myself I’m gonna get American Home Shield for my protection. Then when I get to use it, all of a sudden, I’m paying $100 and my problem wasn't solved.

My recent claim is working out well so far. I have a side-by-side refrigerator and the inside is starting to ice over. The technician came and said he had to order a part. I had a problem with my air conditioner and the contractor that American Home Shield sent out looked at it. He explained to me that it needed the compressor and Freon. He explained to me that the Freon would take somewhere between 8 and 10 pounds, which meant that I would have to pay the 70 times whatever number of pounds they needed. At that time, I didn't have the money for that. So, I waited for them to call me. But I ended up calling them because it was an extreme length of time and I wanted to find out what was going on.
They told me that the person who was supposed to do it declined to do it. So, they had to put me with someone else. That person came out, and went through the same thing again. He told me it was going to be about 12 pounds for the Freon. We waited for the compressor to come in, set it up, and then he came out again and fixed the unit. A week and a half later, the air conditioner went out again. So I called American Home Shield back on a Monday, and the contractor came out on Wednesday. There was some part that was defective, so the tech replaced the part, and the air conditioner has been working ever since.
I called American Home Shield to submit my claims, and I don't like the phone tree. It took forever for me to get to speak with someone. That's a waste of time. The second time I spoke with someone, the gentleman implicated that there may have been a time limit on when I could have the repair fixed. But he never told me what that limit was.

I filed a claim online to AHS because there was water coming from the furnace. The contractors were out the next business day. They had replaced a condenser pump that's located near the floor that had gone bad. But in the meantime, the home wasn't cooling properly. So, American Home Shield called them back, they did a diagnostic test, and found out there was actually a hole in the evaporator core. So, they went on, ordered the parts for that and replaced the parts. And the refrigerant's a different story with American Home Shield, but there was no additional service call charge. It was related back to the original one. Everything is working fine now.
The one thing that I don't care for is that the price of Freon is extremely high now. There's a new refrigerant that's being used, but American Home Shield only covers $10 per pound of refrigerant, and the average price of refrigerant now is anywhere between $70 to $120 a pound. And that, to me, is unfair. And American Home Shield, although they say they will replace an air conditioning unit that is no longer serviceable, that is not necessarily true. They will come up with a portion of the cost, and then the rest is up to the consumer. So, there are a couple of things that are misleading in their advertisement. However, when submitting a claim online, it is usually not an issue. But in the past, if you want a certain vendor that they have and just not randomly having one, you could be on the phone for better than an hour waiting for a representative, until last year when that has improved tremendously.

Every time we called it was like we were starting all over again. The representatives have no answers, refuse to escalate call to supervisor and refused to assign another vendor to our case while insisting on waiting for the vendor to return their call (we called the vendor too and the voicemail was full)...
Meanwhile we have a three week old baby and heat advisory’s in FL and it’s been over a week since we started the process. We still do not have a resolution however fought to get a $125 refund (still “processing”). Our AC is covered under our policy and we still do not have a repair or replacement. NEVER USE AMERICAN HOME SHIELD for appliance insurance EVER!!! First of all the customer service is outside the USA and you can only understand part of everything they say, most of which sounds like the memorized phrases. They do not comprehend what you are trying to convey. Second, they refuse to get a supervisor, I waited over 4 hours and the person who said they were a supervisor, lied about providing a repair person for both my refrigerators and my stove and wouldn't come out the same day because $800 worth of food rotting is not an emergency, only MEDICAL emergencies are emergencies. Is it an appliance or a patient?
Third, They make up the rules as they go and in the fine print you will read, they will determine if they feel like covering the repair or not. Fourth, they charge you for the service call before they ever send a service person out & then they didn't repair anything. When the repair man arrived, he said he was only authorized to repair ONE refrigerator but then DID NOT REPAIR ANYTHING! He said he was authorized to only repair the one in the main house not the garage because the contract says so but they state one thing in their contract and then deny coverage when you call.
Their contract STATES if the appliance is "Installed for diagnosis within the confines of the main foundation of the home or attached or detached garage." The operator from another country kept telling me that because it's in the garage they will not cover it. They charge you a co-pay fee before sending someone out and then find a way to deny fixing your appliances when they arrive.
Then on the refrigerator in the kitchen they said the rubber seals on the door, the electric motherboard and the broken door panel were due to customer abuse!!!! The refrigerator is 9 yrs old, and we've been paying these monthly fees for over 2 yrs with no incidents but they will not pay when our appliances wear out or break down, they have fine print that only they are allowed to interpret any way they want to avoid paying for the coverage you pay for! Don't use this insurance, it's worthless & overcharging customers. We paid thousands & this is the first service call we made and they refused to repair anything!!!! Don't get ripped off! Buyer beware!!!
Good evening Maude,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

This company repeated failed to fix my A/C issues, then terminated my service upon my contract ending. A/C still not repaired a year later. We had AHS since purchasing our Home in 2015. Had no issues with them in servicing various things like our Furnace and Water heater, and then 2018 came. In early May 2018 our A/C wasn't working so we placed a service call for repair thru AHS. AHS sent out one of their contracted companies to look at our A/C unit. It was determined that the unit was out of freon and that the inside unit needed replaced. So, I paid the $75 service fee and approximately $850 for refilling the freon and modifications that AHS didn't cover for the repair. Flash forward to 8/31/2018 and our A/C is put to the test again and yet again when we need it, it fails. Place the service call through AHS like we are supposed to again.
They send out a different company that determines the unit outside needs replaced and oh yeah, the unit needs refilled again. After a horrible experience back and forth with a supposed corporate level associate we pay out of pocket approximately $150 for this fix. Now, mind you, each time we try to get someone out to fix our A/C it takes weeks as it isn't a real priority for them to fix and the last "fix" had the problem report on 8/31/18 and the issue not be fixed until 10/3/2018. As you might imagine, it wasn't really hot come October 3rd so while they did test the A/C system, it never really got put to the test. That is until this last weekend.
Now, before I get to that I must point out that after this issue was finally resolved AHS sent me a letter indicating that when my contract expired on 5/13/2019 that they wouldn't be renewing with me. Convenient as that is. So now, this past weekend we had temperatures in the upper 90s so the A/C was being used, as is to be expected. And wouldn't you know it, even though I basically had an entirely new A/C system, per the words of the upper level corporate individual at AHS, I have an A/C system that has failed.
The line from the unit outside to the house has many sections where ice if visible. Not good from what I've read about online. Needless to say, I emailed my contact at AHS not expecting them to do anything, which was confirmed by a different person. So, I now have to clean up an issue that AHS should have taken care of back in May 2018 but dragged their feet only putting a band aid on the issue as it was more "cost effective" for them. I have additionally contacted the company AHS sent out to do the repairs the last time but haven't had any contact back from them.

We have had the service for over a year and they make all the promises and then never follow through. Many things are not covered and most of the contractors they use don't work on weekends. Also we had to call the contractor assigned and they told us it would be another 3 days before they could come out. Keep in mind we have already waited 2 days without hot water and have a small child. The contractor also told us on the phone that the warranty repair service through American Home Shield is not a priority since they have a hard time getting the company to pay them and even if they come out and determine the water heater needs to be replaced they will not do the work until the company pays them which usually takes 2 weeks.
It is completely unreasonable to be without hot water for 3 weeks when you are paying for a warranty in case of an emergency situation. We have tried using the warranty 2 times over the year we have had it and both times were unsuccessful. They also charge you instantly for the deductible and you have to fight with them to get it back when the contractor does not show. Save yourself the frustration and find someone else as a warranty company or do it yourself if you can.

We purchased our house in August 2018, and with it came a current American Home Shield (AHS) insurance policy, which included our various appliances and pool equipment. Our refrigerator quit working 10 days ago, at which point we contacted AHS to file a claim, and paid the insurance deductible. Two days later (on Friday afternoon), a technician was dispatched to "assess" the problem. At first he asked multiple questions, trying to bait me into stating that our family had left a fridge or freezer door open, or similar, as a reason to deny the claim.
After we completed that verbal dance after 10 minutes, he let me know that AHS would most-likely deny the claim to repair, due to cost of parts and labor, and would most-likely offer us a replacement. He instructed us to unplug the fridge, and that on Monday he would call to let us know the status of the claim request. On Tuesday morning, after no communications from either AHS or the contractor, we contacted both organizations. AHS Customer Service said our claim was denied, and to contact the manufacturer for warranty claim (it's out of warranty, which we already told them). After we let AHS know that it was out of warranty again, they stated they would escalate and review the claim.
It has now been 5 working days since that claim went into review, and we still do not have a functioning fridge, or any sort of plan or response from AHS. When calling into customer care, we're told that since the claim has been escalated and is in-review, they cannot help us. From my standpoint, AHS has taken our monthly payments, AND our deductible for this repair and is skirting their responsibility. It is apparent that they are just hoping we go away and buy a new fridge out of pocket. Hopefully this review gets someone's attention at AHS, who can actually do something about this disappointing experience so far.

Updated 07/03/2019: AHS deducted $75 co-pay for my refrigerator repair, one contractor came 3 weeks ago. Never hear anything back from the AHS and the contractor. I called the contractor yesterday, be told AHS has not approved the order. I asked customer service to cancel my contract with AHS. But should you refund my copay? The money you took from me but didn’t do the job.
Original review: We have AHS for a few years. This company doesn’t care customer anymore. We put the repair request 3 weeks ago, paid $75 co-pay. I am still waiting to get it fixed. The customer service told me that it can take them 8 week to just order the parts. That is their policy. I asked the customer service what should I do in the meantime, the weather is 112 in Phoenix. What happens to my food is not covered by the AHS, and that’s my own problem. The company policy showed how little they care about their customers. The customer supervisor said she is the highest the person I can talk to.
The contractor they sent to my house said they submitted parts request to AHS 3 weeks ago, never hear back from AHS. However, AHS told me the contractor has the part. The supervisor from AHS said it took 8 weeks to get the part. I am hearing different stories from each of them. When I asked to cancel the contract with AHS, the supervisor was very quick, she got that done in one minute. I asked for reimbursement since they can’t fix my refrigerator in a reasonable time. She said no, there is nothing she can do for me. This company is my worst nightmare.
Good Morning Meixia,
I certainly apologize that we were not able to resolve the situation before the contract was canceled. We hope this situation does not discourage you from considering AHS for your future home warranty needs. Have an awesome week.

The American Home Shield representatives were very matter-of-fact and businesslike. The contractor came the first time and looked at the job pretty quickly. It’s just taking a little bit longer to get the parts and get it fixed, though part of that is my fault because I was out of town. However, I was hoping for a better payout. I was under the impression that they would replace the whole thing instead of just the compressor because of the age in my unit. But they're having to do modifications, and the modifications aren’t included.

I sent in a claim to American Home Shield when the water machine in my refrigerator was not working. Then the ice machine wouldn't work. Ice would fall out all over the floor when the door is opened. Everything is frozen over in the freezer. There's inches of frost on it. The contractor has been out and they fixed one thing, but it's not solving the problem. They fixed another thing, but still didn't solve the problem. And now, they're out for the third time. But the contractor is very nice and they do a good job. The refrigerator works when they leave, and then boom, they're back here a few weeks later for the same refrigerator.

We had water leaking continuously and when we submitted a claim with AHS, their reps did a good job. They called somebody and had a contractor scheduled to come out. Then, within hours after the time we were finished talking on the phone, the tech was out here to fix the issue. He was absolutely super and he showed me exactly what the problem was. I was pretty sure what it was anyway, but I still liked that he showed it to me. Then he put in a new part and fixed it. He was out of here within 20 minutes and things have been perfect since then. I was very satisfied with my experience. In fact, I told the tech while he was here that I was really happy with what he did and how fast the repair got done.

My recent claim experience with American Home Shield is working out fine. I just have one thing that hasn’t been fixed yet. And it had to do with electric stuff. I have a 220 cable running out of the ground, and what I’m trying to do is have a like a transformer box hooked up to it and the wire clipped, so it’s within code. And I don’t know if I put that into details or if I put anything in the details, but that was another thing that I needed to be done. Other than that, AHS is awesome. And the boss from Electro-Tech South Texas ended up coming out, which was very impressive. He said he goes out to all of the locations that he sends his workers to just to get a heads up on what’s going on, so he’s warm and fuzzy. And I thought that was very professional. Not every company can do that, but he made it personal by coming out. The workers were great. They were very respectful and they got the work done quickly.
I’ve done my claims with AHS both online and over the phone, but I prefer the online. And on every claim that we’ve had, as far as the personnel goes and the contractors that have come out, they’ve been very respectful, polite and they get the job done. Also, they follow up with us and let us know when the job is complete.
Good Morning Darrell,

The air wasn’t working, and it was because whoever had mowed the lawn wound up cutting the electrical cord with a weed whacker. The contractors that AHS sent were amazing. And they came and they fixed it. They did a great job and they were perfect. However, when I tried to do submit a claim online to AHS, it was a little confusing only because I have never done it before. The person that I purchased the house from, that Realtor, didn’t explain it at all. The packet that they gave me didn’t really explain it. It wasn’t user-friendly.
What happened was I closed on a Friday. I called on a Saturday, and it kept telling me that the number I was putting in was incorrect. But it was the number that they gave me to use. So I’m thinking now, “I don’t have this warranty,” because they’re telling me I’m not in the system. But I was in the system. That’s where I was pretty unhappy because I was out of town. I had people there that were moving, and they were screaming because they were upset. I almost got to the point where I was just gonna pay somebody to go out and fix it and not even worry about it. And it was a weekend and I didn’t know how long it would actually take for someone to come and do anything. So it was about a week before the contractors were able to do it. It was 87 degrees out and that was not a good thing.
So now that I know that I’m in the system, and I know that if it doesn’t work by that, I go by my phone number. But there was nothing in there that said, “If the number’s not right, do this.” So that would be the one thing that I would fix on that. But other than that, it was lovely once I figured it out. The only thing I did notice is that they don’t call back on the weekends at all, which I think should have been explained. The Realtor said they’d call me back. And then when I got somebody, they said, “You’re gonna hear from the contractors in 24 hours.” That’s not true. I didn’t hear from them in 24 hours. It’s 24 hours if it’s a work week, but not on the weekends.
Good Morning Debra,
I apologize for the confusion via the website, we will work to make it more user-friendly for you!

We had a 15-year old garbage disposal that was an original with the house. When water started coming out of the bottom, I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I put it in online first and I immediately got the name of the company that was coming which was Third Generation Plumbing & Mechanical. I got online to check the reviews and they were not good. Everyone said not to use them. I called the insurance company and the girl there was very nice. I told her what I found out. She looked at it and said she would send a senior technician. That worked out fine.
The technician was here at 9:30 on Monday morning. I was surprised he came so soon because I didn’t call until Saturday night. I guess he happened to be in Lakeland. He was very good. He put a new garbage disposal in. He had one in the truck and it looked like the same brand that was taken out. The technician was in and out of here rather quickly. The garbage disposal has been working well.

Our most recent service request with American Home Shield was a bit of a fiasco. We originally filed a claim with them because our water heater was making noises when it would fire up. It made a big whoosh sound, like the pilot light was being overfed too much gas. They sent a local plumber out, but in the interim from the time that I made that phone call to the time that the plumber came out, we had another issue, which was a toilet that overflowed and flooded a part of our house. So when the plumber got there, they addressed that, which was a toilet that had blockage, and a flap on the toilet that wasn’t coming all the way down. The water ran and that’s why it flooded. They sent another guy out the next day with an aqua jet and I was there for that. And the jet didn’t unclog it, but then he ran the snake and he got it unclogged.
I talked to American Home Shield and they told me that the claim wouldn’t be covered because my policy doesn’t cover a jet. I said that was not what ended up unclogging the toilet and it was the snake. They said, “Well, if it’s over 100 feet, we don’t cover that.” According to the technician, it was only 80 feet. We went round and round, and the plumber finally got American Home Shield to cover the issue.
In the meantime, the water heater was never addressed and it ended up failing. I ended up in the hospital and had a emergency surgery that I wasn’t expecting. So we contacted that same plumber. The last time we had the water heater replaced, American Home Shield sent a plumber out from about 200 miles away from us, who installed the water heater. The heater was not serviced in our area. But it was supposed to be more efficient and it was mandated for the area where this plumber was. That same plumber that we met through American Home Shield, said, “They’re really inferior. They pump too much gas. That’s why you were hearing the big poof sound. It burns out the whole screen,” and it needed to be replaced. We ended up paying for it ourselves because it would’ve been three days before we got approval from American Home Shield to have it looked at, and I didn’t want my wife to be out of hot water.

We've called American Home Shield multiple times to file a claim, trying to get through, and we were on hold. The most frustrating part was the hold for very long periods of time. It was 45 minutes or longer. And then, most of the time, somebody answers and we can't hardly understand them. We've had Woods Appliance out for the refrigerator and dishwasher, and we had good experiences with them up until lately.
We've called about some plumbing issues and American Home Shield had to use Gash Plumbing out of Higginsville. I'm not a real fan of Gash Plumbing. I much prefer some of the guys in Warrensburg, which we're right in the middle between Warrensburg and Higginsville. That was a little frustrating. I paid for a couple of plumbing things myself just because I didn't wanna use Gash, and that's who the American Home Shield representative would insist upon using. We did had to replace hot water heater and we went through Gash. They did a fine job. But they're just not my first choice for plumbing.
My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the dishwasher and it was a six-month ordeal. Woods Appliance came out and looked at it. The tech came out three different times. He was gonna recommend replacement of the dishwasher but we never heard back from him. And then we couldn't get him to come back out. We contacted American Home Shield and they reached out to him, but we still didn't hear back from him. After we talked with the representative from American Home Shield, he said they were going to replace the dishwasher and to allot a certain number of dollars. So we did that, and we're very thankful. It was just frustrating for a few months. But other than that, it went well. We're very satisfied with American Home Shield. Our year's up in August and we're going to renew with them.

Our AC unit went out and we submitted a claim for service over the phone to American Home Shield. They took three weeks to get a contractor to us as it was summertime and there was nobody available in Victoria who was affiliated with them. So, we had to use a contractor at least over 50 miles away to perform service. Still, the techs who came did great and completed the service all in one day. Everything has been working fine since. Still, AHS needs to reach out to towns where clients live and try to get contractors who are closer. Scheduling with a tech over 50 miles away is ridiculous and they can't pinpoint a time to meet me. They wanna give me a four-hour window when they may show up and I gotta take off work to meet them.

The agitator in my washing machine was not working. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was easy. But getting a part was another story. They couldn't get the part for a month. The contractor told me that I had to wait for a part so I did. But he didn't take the washer completely apart to find out what was actually wrong. Also, the Vietnamese guy was really hard to understand. The part we waited for was alos not the part that needed to be replaced. We finally got that turned in so we could order the part. By then, I had enough so I wanted to call somebody else out. The new people came out and did the same thing.
The second time, they were ordering the wrong part. Finally, the real part came in. The Vietnamese guy came back with it and put it in. I have no idea what the issue was. But whatever it was, it was stupid. The washing machine is working okay now but it took probably six weeks to get it done. I had to go to the laundromat several times and I think I should have been reimbursed for that. But American Home Shield is not gonna do anything. They don't work with you. If you try to get this settled, they just say that they're gonna get in touch with this person and that person which is absolutely no good because it’s not ever gonna happen. I was satisfied before with American Home Shield but after that experience, I never wanna go through that again.

The first time Majestic Custom Heating & Air came out, they just diagnosed the air conditioner to get it running for 10 minutes. There was a capacitor out on the main unit outside and they replaced that. The air conditioner started running and they left. They could have been to the next stop before it stopped working although I understood that they couldn't stay forever. Often, I went to work and when I came home, I called them again to say that nothing was coming out of the vent. I went downstairs, felt it and it was cold.
Five days later, they came back to the house again and replaced the thermostat. It turned on for a little bit but it turned on from the old thermostat. They went away but by the time I came home from work, the blower was not blowing. So, they came back out after I had to wait another week for them to come because they were busy. They replaced the blower motor and it was blowing harder than it ever has. He left and I went back to work. When I got home from work, it was not air conditioning again. So, I called them again. I called AHS and I couldn't get anybody else out there.
AHS called Custom and said I could them set up. I had Majestic coming out on Friday and I had Custom set out to do a second opinion on Monday. But then, AHS canceled with Custom and said that I couldn’t have two contractors coming for the same problem. When Majestic came out for the fourth visit on that Friday, they said they couldn’t get the parts for this thing anymore for the stuff that they needed to fix and they were gonna have to recommend a replacement for it. AHS approved it. Custom called me and said that they got an email from AHS saying that the air conditioner had been shipped. So, I don't know if AHS shipped it to the customer or if they shipped it to Majestic.
I'm going through the middle of summer without an air conditioner and I've got a window unit running in my bedroom so that I can at least sleep at night but the rest of the house, you just sit there and sweat. I'm frustrated at this point. I've had AHS for a long time, and this is the first time that it has ever taken four visits for somebody to figure this out.

First, it's actually been a very long time since I've been treated so badly by so many people at one company. I'm physically shaking and ILL while writing this. I've had AHS for 4 plus years. Paying every month and not needing them until yesterday. It was and is 115 degrees in the AZ desert heat. I called because my HVAC capacitor went out. After 7 calls and being hung up on repeatedly they told me to find my own HVAC company to make the repair and to call back with their diagnosis. After many calls to companies who refused to work with AHS I finally found one, 24 hours later. Please keep in mind all without any air Conditioning in 115 degrees.
The HVAC tech came. We had to call 14 times. Not kidding. 14 times. Talking to rude people who would refuse to authorize a 200$ repair. Sasha was a name I received of one rep. So 14 calls and this poor technician who was simply telling AHS what was broken was also being spoken to so rudely and being accused of being told what to say by me and I didn't say anything except my property address. Even though I pay every month for 4 years they refused to authorize a capacitor repair on my 14 year old air conditioner.
The repair was 200$. The tech spent 4 hours talking to them and being hung up on. The capacitor took 5 minutes to replace. He was so incredible and AHS employees should truly feel ashamed at how disgraceful they treat people who need help. I paid $100 yesterday for a service call but they had me find a company telling me I'd be reimbursed, as long as the company was licensed insured. I could not believe how I was talked to or how the technician from the AC company who didn't even work for American Home Shield. Shame on American Home Shield and their belittling representatives who just yell, degrade and hang up repeatedly.
Good morning Jennifer.

They are a terrible representation and should be fired. Just read the reviews on Yelp.
We have spent over $500 on window units just to survive to keep from going to a hotel and kenneling our dog. Enough is enough and this is beyond ridiculous. I am not asking for a whole new AC system, unless ours cannot be fixed. I’ve been a customer for over 10 years, have rarely used the coverage, paid them $10k and now hung out to dry. The first technician misdiagnosed the problem and replaced the regulator instead of the leaking valves. He said if we do smell gas again, it's probably just 'burping some excess'. Two months later we are still smelling gas and paid another $75.00 for another service call with a different company. This technician said the valves are leaking. Since these valves are no longer available, American Home Shield wanted to rebuild the valves which would take 8-10 weeks without a cook top.
After many hours on the phone with different people at the company, we finally got someone to agree to send a check for a cheap GE brand cook top that cost half the price of a Thermador. We were so frustrated by then that we agreed to accept a check for $984.11 which we were told would take 14 business days. The check never came. When I called, and after waiting nearly an hour on hold, I got this response: "Oh sorry your check never got sent, we will try again, wait another 14 working days". American Home Shield has the worst customer service I have ever experienced from such a large company. It's a wonder they stay in business; collecting premiums but not paying claims. In my opinion, that is fraud! Buyers Beware!

I have sent you an email and called attempting to reach you to assist with resolving any concerns you may have. If assistance is still needed please do respond at your earliest convenience and I will be happy to partner with you to reach a resolution!

Do not waste your money on a home warranty from American Home Shield. I repeat, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I gave this company at least 3 tries to show me that they stand by their promises to provide valuable service. They failed each and every time, this most recent time being the nail in their coffin. The AC in our home quit working overnight Monday, June 24th. I placed a repair request online Tuesday, June 25th.
The good news is they had a contract (Perry Mechanical) come out the very next day Wednesday, June 26th. The bad news is Perry Mechanical did not correctly repair our AC, left, and...when we determined it was still not working...did not return our calls, emails, or Facebook messages until after 9:30 the next morning (Thursday, June 27th). The worst news is when they finally did return return our calls, they informed me "We can come back out Monday between 2 and 5." That's right, Monday, July 1st - FOUR DAYS LATER. What company that screws something up as vital to a family as air conditioning in their home makes that family wait FOUR DAYS to right their wrong?!?
Calling American Home Shield during this debacle was just as frustrating. For starters, they shouldn't even be allowed to call themselves "American" Home Shield considering they have ZERO American representatives to speak with when you call them for help. Instead, they have outsourced, offshore Indian representatives that have the empathy of a rock, repetitively reading from scripts and accomplishing NOTHING. I can add that this has been the case every single time we've had to use this warranty service: slow response times, sub-par contractors, and bare-minimum repair jobs that always required at least a second visit for them to get it right. It's pathetic.
Do yourself a favor and either find a better home warranty company (if there is such a thing, the more I research the more it seems they are all terrible) or just put the money you'd be paying these fly-by-nights into an account you can later use for repairs as the needs arise. Of course I have since cancelled my contract with this poor excuse for a company and am looking elsewhere.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield is very customer-friendly. I have three different appliances that were serviced – my oven, my dishwasher and the refrigerator. I called to file the claim and the representative was professional. He actually helped me right on time, walked me through the process and explained everything to me. It was professional and efficient. The contractors were very good as well. They were professional in their approach and the time between the call and their arrival was really timely. Their service was efficient and it was actually done properly. My dishwasher was fixed yesterday and initially, when I tried washing, there was a blockage. But the contractor told me that was a plumbing issue and we fixed that on our own. Other than that, I’m still trying to observe. I’m trying to check if the dishwasher is turning off by itself. But I had an issue with one of the appliances and they came back right on time to fix it. Overall, my experience was great.

We submitted two claims to AHS. One was for our kitchen sink and one for the toilet flush that was not working. I submitted the claims online and it was pretty easy navigating their website. For the first request, there was a little bit of delay, but after that, I think it was fine. The second one was prompt. My experience with the contractors was pretty good. As for the first one, it was for the gas furnace. So, he just replaced it. The other replaced the stuff in the toilet. However, we’re planning to put out a request for the toilet. Basically, one toilet was missed out in the fix. But I’m pretty much satisfied with my experience with AHS.

I’ve had two claims very recently. Valley Pro Appliance Repair came for the air conditioner and they were great. They had come out a few weeks ago and had worked on my air conditioner, and they thought they repaired it. It started working, but then on July 3rd, I got home and my air conditioning wasn’t working again. So, they said they would send somebody out on the 4th of July, which I was happy with because I had 16 people staying at my house from Tuesday through Sunday. But then the guy ended up coming out the same day and he made the repair, and hopefully now it’s fixed. He was very professional. He went up to where my unit is, put a new motor in it and he was great.
With my refrigerator, I’m still really upset and I’m thinking about cancelling American Home Shield over that debacle. It was the week before the 4th of July and I noticed that my icemaker wasn’t working, and I thought my refrigerator wasn’t up to temp. I had people coming, so I went online and I put in for the refrigerator/icemaker, and AHS had somebody come out on Thursday. The gentleman that came out said, “It’s the thermostat. I’m gonna replace the thermostat in your refrigerator and I’m gonna put in a new icemaker, and that should take care of it.” He did and said, “By tonight, it should be making ice and your refrigerator should be up to the right temperature.”
The next morning, everything in my refrigerator had gone bad and it was not working. So, the tech came back out on Friday and he said, “Maybe the thermostat that I put in was faulty. I will put in a new thermostat.” He was going out of town and he said, “Let me know within three hours if it’s starting to get cold, and it should be starting to make ice.” Four hours later, it was still not cold and I still had no ice. He said, “In that case, I don’t know if it can be fixed. I’m gonna submit a claim to American Home Shield, telling them that what I’ve done hasn’t worked.” I said I had to have a refrigerator as I had people coming.
So, I started looking online and with the refrigerators, the earliest I could get one if I ordered it on that day would be on the 3rd, which was when all my people would start arriving. AHS called me back on Monday and said, “We wanna have someone else come out on Wednesday.” And I said, “I’m supposed to be without a refrigerator until Wednesday? I went down Saturday morning and ordered a new refrigerator, and it’s going to be here Wednesday afternoon.”
They were like, “We’re not gonna cover it because we want this other person to come out and diagnose it.” The rep said she would be getting back in touch with me, but that was before they tried to set up another tech. Even if I keep the refrigerator, when they say that it can’t be fixed because my refrigerator is almost 17 years old, who’s gonna haul it off and who’s gonna pay for somebody to come and get my refrigerator? What am I supposed to do with that refrigerator after their guy comes out and says it can’t be fixed? I got a refrigerator and I got through the week, but not from any help from American Home Shield.

We have two air conditioning systems and the one for our upstairs stopped working. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield on a Friday morning and the contractor came out the following Tuesday. We had been having some trouble getting in to change our filter and he showed me an easier way to get through it than what we had been doing and he also was only there on multiple visits in order to see if it's working. It was wonderful. There's just a little bit of confusion as to what we're supposed to pay for the service charge. I was told originally $100 and then in an email I got it said only $75 which was great. We're confused as to what the difference was and I guess why one would pay more sometimes than others.

I called in and set up an appointment with American Home Shield but I had to cancel it online then I set up another appointment at a later date. When I called to see that Sears was coming, they said to call American Home Shield. But American Home Shield said to call Sears. So I called Sears and Sears didn’t have anything on record. So I called American Home Shield back and they said there was a problem because I did it online. Well, if I did it online, it should be able to flow right through and I would have no problems whatsoever. But nobody came out at that time and this is a vacation home. We’re not there all the time and that’s why I set it up that way. We had to reset the appointment up again and when the Sears man came out, he was fine. It turned out that it needed a whole new microwave.
They went back and we ordered it. But somehow, the order got switched in their online system. It went from a black to a slate. Slate, to me, is black, because when I went to school, we had slate blackboards and they were black. I didn’t realize that had switched. So on the day the microwave came out, it was wrong so they sent it back and I paid $124 to restock. Then when the next one came out, they brought it out and it was damaged. I called back in and paid $124. I figured I was gonna have to reset the appointment but the next thing I knew, I got a phone call saying the unit was being delivered the next day. But nobody was going to be there.
So I had somebody come in there at that time to accept it because I wasn’t expecting it. Then they couldn’t get in the door for some reason. We asked them to put it over in the storage unit that we have right in that same property but they refused to do it. So we put it in the back of an SUV that the guy had. I came down the next week and called up. I brought it up inside to the unit and Dunaway Appliances came out. The guy installed it and he was real nice.
The new microwave works fine but the whole process was an absolutely horrible experience. The process took two months plus and I had to call American Home Shield back and forth a couple of times. And every time you call there, you’re on the line for half an hour before you really get anybody. This is my first claim and I hope there’s never another one. We even had to pay $75 for somebody to come out and say that the microwave was broken. When this contract is up in November, I’m sure as heck not gonna renew with American Home Shield.

I’ve been having problems with plumbing and AHS has not resolved it. I had a garbage disposal put in, and when the contractors came out, they charged me $195 for modification. That’s when they modify the pipes but they didn’t modify anything. And I have had three garbage disposals put in through American Home Shield. I’ve been with them for 23 years. Each one that came out never charged anything for modification. They just took the garbage disposal out and put it in. Now, in the meantime, he said if I get the bigger one, it’d be $350, and he wouldn’t charge me for modification. But he said he needed to modify the pipes and it’s $195. When I had another plumber come out there, he said, “If they put this in 10 minutes, they ain’t modified the pipes.” And I know they didn’t ‘cause I’m sitting there. So, I’m paying $100 for the fee and $300 for a garbage disposal. That’s ridiculous and that’s not right.
And they’re supposed to come back out today because the original claim was water was backing up in the dishwasher, and the garbage disposal wasn’t coming on. So, they tell me the garbage is backing up in the dishwasher because the garbage disposal wasn’t working. And now, I got a new garbage disposal, it’s still backing up in there. They never did snake it out. They didn’t even open and look at it.
I spoke to about three different representatives of AHS. Each time I called, they hung up on me. So, I had to call back all over again, and go through the system, and get another agent, and start all over again. I said, “If you don’t know, ask somebody.” So, the lady told me yesterday that she was gonna bump up the claim. But apparently, when I called back, they didn’t do it.
She said she was gonna email them this and email them that. I said, “Let me talk to your supervisor.” She said, “She's gonna tell you the same thing.” I said, “Well, let her tell me the same thing.” So, she finally let me talk to her supervisor. I said I’ve been calling them for a week and a half. Everybody keeps telling me they’re gonna email this, that person, and they’re gonna get back to me, email me, and call me. But nobody has called me and told me a thing. She told me that she was gonna call me within 24 hours, and she was gonna personally talk to them herself. All my other experiences with AHS in the past, I’ve had no problem. But this is horrible.

I had a problem with my air conditioner and submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. They did their job for us. However, their contractor didn't. Their guy came and fixed our issue then went away. Several days later, we had the same problem. I told AHS and said that my issue should have been fixed but it wasn't, so I'm not gonna pay. They said okay and they called and they called up the contractor. The tech came back and I didn't pay anything. I had shut the air conditioner off ‘cause it was blowing hot air. He turned it on and it blew cold air. He told us some things to look for because he needed to have it running when it's not blowing cold air so he can find out why. Now, we have the same problem again.
Also, when I called the second time, I left a message and AHS said that I would receive a call back from Superior within 24 hours. Superior never called and the following day was a holiday. The day after the holiday, we still didn't get a call so I called them back. Superior called thereafter and told me that they won't be able to call back until Sunday. I told them that we're in a heatwave and that we're senior citizens. I told their rep that I have a dog that's panting and it was not acceptable for me not to get a call for three days. Our air conditioner had been running for a little over 20 years, then the compressor went bad. So, AHS sent this technician out here to check it and he confirmed the problem with the compressor. But when they come back to fix it, they sent somebody else out here and apparently, he put in the wrong compressor. He also did not do a really good job of soldering the fittings. I had a friend of mine who worked for the HVAC company and he told me to look at the gauges on the unit. He said that there was not enough gas in it and that it had all leaked out.
So, I called AHS and they sent somebody out here, a young man named James, and he was extremely knowledgeable. He looked at it and the first thing he said was that it was not the correct compressor to even be in this unit. He explained that the one that was supposed to be there is called a scroll compressor, and the one that was put in was some other kind. So, he turned to report it and 10 days later, we got the correct compressor. He came out, put it in, and regassed it.
Other than that, the breaker box was tripped when James was here. It's right around the corner from my garage and we heard this loud explosion, so we went in and opened up the box, and the breaker box was smoking. So, he tested it out to make sure it wasn't something because the lights came back on. But we knew that there was something bad. He didn't take the panel off of it and he was not an electrician, but he did go around and checked the bigger box where it comes in, and he said it had electricity to it.
So, I called AHS again and told them that I needed an electrician. The rep I talked to spoke English but it seemed like he didn't understand it. He said they were in Memphis but I've been there and they don't have a Southern accent there. I would tell the rep to speak slowly and that I'm 86 years old. I wear hearing aids and I asked him to speak loudly so I could hear him. The call would start well then he'd be talking kinda loud and soon, he'd fade off in the wild blue yonder. But every once in a while, I would get an AHS rep that would get my message, too.
Anyhow, the reason for my call was sort of an emergency because this breaker box did not look very good and I told him that it was a serious situation. And within four hours, the electrician was here and he fixed it. I have two air conditioners and one of them was upstairs. It's a little air conditioner I never used, so we just swapped it down, then hooked it up. And the new compressor has been running fine since then. It's cooling a lot better than that other one was. But my complaint is that I had to pay three technicians to come out so I could have the issue fixed. Plus. it was $600 something worth of gas that I had to pay for again. But the problem wasn't my fault and it hadn't even been in a year since the last repair.
Aside from that, AHS also had my air conditioner fixed one time before, which was a very good job. I also had a claim when my oven stopped working. I could tell there was something wrong with it because if you opened the door on the bottom of it, it was all warped. AHS sent a technician out here and while he was doing that, my EZ cooktop quit. So, they got a replacement cooktop for me. Overall, I have a 100% satisfaction with AHS. I understand when they have problems and things don't go well. And overall, I'd recommend them to everybody that even thinks about it.
Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with AHS is greatly appreciated.

They’ve been good to work with but we haven't quite solved the problem, so they’re gonna come back. Other than that, American Home Shield has been really solid and good. We’ve enjoyed working with them. The website makes it easy to put in our claim and they’re consistent with what’s on the agreement. We’ve been pretty happy so far.

I originally submitted a claim online to AHS for our refrigerator. It was easy and it took less than five minutes. However, it wasn't repaired and we had to call back. The repair persons came back out but then, unfortunately, they didn't submit the claim back to American Home Shield saying that the refrigerator couldn't be repaired. We waited another month and a half and when I called back again, they got another repair person out. The gentleman from Suffolk Appliance parts who came was very knowledgable. They were helpful and did what they were supposed to. The tech said that the refrigerator couldn't be repaired ‘cause the pan can’t be ordered and the process escalated really quickly after that. He knew his stuff.

My garage door opener wasn't working and when I went online to file my claim with AHS, I found the process to be very easy. Then the contractor, All Season Door and Glass, came out within 24 hours. But they had to come a second time because they diagnosed the problem but weren't able to fix it the same day. Other than that, their work was excellent. The repair person was also very thorough with me about what was going on and what steps needed to be taken to remedy the problem. And I thought he was very nice and professional. I didn't mind having him in my house, which is kinda of a big deal for me.

I have been a customer of AHS since I purchased my home 20 years ago. In that time I used the services here and there for minor things but I truly kept it to save me the financial pain when a major appliance would eventually stop working. It finally happened this month as my AC unit stopped working. I had an AHS service technician come out to service and get it running again and a week later it is out again. Keep in mind that this is in the middle of Texas heat.
Upon re-examining the unit I am told that the unit in the attic that it is. It covered as part of my plan because it’s due to maintenance. Now I don’t know what sort of maintenance I need to do besides changing air filter etc. But of course when you really need AHS, you are left high and dry. I received a quote to replace the unit of $9,000 and can’t believe that AHS is not covering any of it even after they say if they can’t fix it they’ll replace it. Needless to say after 20 years of being a customer I will be dropping them as soon as possible and will not recommend anybody hoping for peace of mind to sign a contract with this company. My son in law will also be dropping them after my experience as well.

American Home Shield did good on my most recent claim. They sent someone to fix the pump on the pool. We’re gonna have to call them back out. The pump’s not near as strong as the one we had to begin with. It doesn't have the power that it used to have. But the contractors that were sent were awesome. They were a good group of people. They were super nice. It’s just that we really didn't notice that something was not right until we got in the pool on July 4th. And it’s possible that the sand needs to be changed too. We just haven't called for someone to come back out yet.
There were no problems when I submitted the claim. They called within two days. I did the claim online because I couldn't get through on their phone. Their call-in, if I had to rate it between 1 and 10, it’d be a 0. Other than that, they responded within 48 hours like the email said. It said 24 to 48, and they did. And the people that came out called and set up an appointment for a Monday, and they called me back that Friday before the Monday and said they thought they had the part in but they had to order it, and it would be the following Wednesday.

They did make a report that I had trouble with it for a long time in my kitchen ceiling. And they figured out the pipe was too short and it was leaking. The contractors were able to repair it in one visit and it looks like it solved the problem.

American Home Shield's online claims process doesn't work very well. You can't schedule off an app or your phone or even off the web. My account has always had problems so I have to call them. When I call, I have to put in all my security information verbally, and then when somebody picks it up, I have to do it again, and I'm speaking to somebody in the Philippines, which is outsourced. I can understand some of what they're saying, then there's barriers with things like ordering parts.
The plumbing and electrical people have been good with American Home Shield. When the contractor came out for my dishwasher, they had to order the part. It took a little bit of a while to get the part, but their company was good. They did what they were supposed to do. They didn’t do anything bad. Also, because of the area that I live in, the person with that company had to place the schedule out a little bit. When I spoke to him, the part arrived last Friday and he installed it yesterday. And that was reasonable.
From a person who runs a business, American Home Shield is like a mill. You call in, you get somebody in the Philippines, and then they send in an order in your area, having someone to track it. It’d be a lot easier if the online really was functional and didn’t break where you could just go and the companies call you, and you skip that whole either India or Philippines outsourcing where you have some language barriers. American Home Shield should spend some money on getting the web right and having their app work well. Also, it would be great if I could call a tech and get my web account working. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to schedule a service over the phone, and that's in between language barrier and wait times, seeking your security codes.
The process of getting someone out is a bit cumbersome. American Home Shield really needs to spend more money on the ease of booking a repair. With today’s technology, it should be instant. When your time involvement is 30 or 45 minutes, it kinda makes you wonder why you're doing it. And you're kinda stuck because they're just in a group of companies that aren't very good to begin with, and then there's all the fine print. They have to come out seven times to fix something before it would get totally repaired or you'd buy a new one. So, with that monthly sum of 70 bucks a month, it doesn’t pay for itself. But the contractors that come out are good. They can do their work and get in and out.

I asked, “Is there any way to dispatch another person?” They said, “No, not without you paying.” I don't know what am I supposed to do if they don’t answer. But submitting the claim with American Home Shield was no problem. It was a joy. I wish if they can't get ahold of the contractors, they should go ahead and dispatch one out. My experience with AHS has been okay, but the people they’ve been sending out has been so-so. My AC unit on the inside was leaking. I submitted a claim to AHS for it and they really do have good agents. I’ve had three different vendors that came out, and this most recent one, Next Gen Air was awesome. Rescue One did okay too. But US-Air has been horrible.
The first couple of times they came out, they didn’t do anything to my air conditioner. They said they see no problem, but there was definitely a problem. But Next Gen Air checked the outside and the inside. They showed me every problem that I had, and they were very informative. For the past two weeks, my air conditioner has really been working well. And if I do replace it, I’m going with Next Gen to replace my outside unit. AHS really does well, and they work with a lot of people. And the things that we normally have to pay for out-of-pocket, with AHS, we just pay the service fee. So, it was really fair.

AHS really works. I love it. It's no guessing game. You tell them what your issue is, and it’s taken care of. They put you in touch with a reliable company. And it works wonderful. Recently, my issue was from the bathroom on the main floor, it was dripping into the basement. So it was something running in the wall. And I just couldn’t tell the system online, “it’s the leak that’s coming from the bathroom in the main floor and dropping to the basement.” Online wasn’t a place to submit it, so I spoke to a representative of AHS. She understood what I was trying to do and she took care of it right away. It was terrific. The contractors came out the following day and everything worked out wonderfully. Everything is fine. The hole in the wall has been, now, filled up and completed, so I am great. I also had a refrigerator replaced with AHS. So this is why I continue to sing their song and tell my people they gotta get American Home Shield because they’re the best. They’re reliable. Updated on 07/10/2019: If I could give zero stars, I would. Having a home warranty with American Home Shield has been a completely regretful and terrible experience. We have been dealing with them for close to 2 months now regarding our microwave which is under our home warranty. We’ve spent countless hours on the phone and missed work days with no avail. Each time we call we hear a different lie with no resolution at this point. It’s been over a week now since they last told us they will help resolve it but nothing.
My husband missed work today because the technician they had contracted did not show up to work and we didn’t find out until the last minute. And this is after the initial technician they had sent broke the hinge off the microwave and refused to come back to repair it. Oh yeah, and American Home Shield also sent the WRONG part initially. It’s lies every time we call so they can get you off the phone. Our experience with them regarding our air conditioning wasn’t any better. We eventually had to get our own technician and pay thousands of dollars out of pocket because American Home Shield kept sending incompetent technicians! If you want peace of mind, avoid them like the plague!
Original Review: My experience with this company has been nothing but headache and regrets. I can't say enough how bad the customer service is with this company. Our microwave broke a month ago and we contacted American Home Shield since our appliances are covered in the warranty. It took 2 weeks for them to send the parts (which turned out to be the wrong parts), and then the contractor they sent broke the microwave beyond repair. We've been trying to get American home shield to fix or replace the microwave and over the past month, every time we call, we get a different answer as they give us the run around. Never again! They just lie and tell you stories to try to get you off the phone. We are considering legal action against this company. Incredibly dishonest!
I apologize for the way we have handled your microwave claim. I just sent you an email in an effort to resolve your issue. I look forward to assisting you.

This company is a complete fraud. When I signed up with this company, no one told me that I am signing up for 1 year contract and there will be 1 month admin fees charge if I cancel it before 1 year. When I was cancelling the contract, no one told me that I will be charged admin fees which is equal to 1 month fees. I was charged admin fees on credit card and I noticed. I called customer care about that and then they explained that this is admin fees. I asked why no one told me upfront. They told that it's in the contract. The fact is I never received any contract till date. Rather, I called customer care 10 times asking them about contract since my account started and every time they told that I will receive contract in 24 to 48 hours which never happened.
I just read the sample contract and it says that if I cancel the contract in 1 month, I will receive full refund and I canceled exactly on 1 month date and that is something they have in notes and now, they are saying the cancellation was processed 1 day after which is over 1 day. So, we cannot refund rather we will charge admin fees which sum up to 2 months fees. Apart from that, I asked them that I don't think I want to lose this money. I will not rather cancel the contract for now because it is 1 year which I just came to know, I will rather continue. Now, they say that we cannot renew as it has already been cancelled. What is going on in this company. Is it a joke?
Tarun,
I certainly apologize that we were not able to speak with you during the cancelation process when we reached out to you. The cancelation terms can also be viewed under the online contract when logging into your account. We hope this situation does not discourage you from considering AHS for your future home warranty needs.

I'm also vocal as hell and have recommended your company many times! BTW, not only was Her and His plumbing bad, but TOTAL AC from a few years back was garbage as well.
Shaun,
I hate to hear that you were not satisfied with the service received with AHS. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

The beginning part of stating you have a repair is easy. You contact them and set up an appointment however they do not inform you that different techs come out for different appliances therefore you get to wait for two techs to arrive to your home. I requested not to have Sears come to my home as there are horrible at home repair service. They sent out Sears. Upon arrival the techs were not knowledgeable. They ordered parts and left. Another appointment was set up and rescheduled but several times my Sears due to delay in parts delivery which I learned from UPS was due to Sears shipment delay. 2 weeks go by and they reschedule again. When you call American Home Shield or Sears you get routed to the Philippines no matter how many times you call. Which I did over ten times. I requested to speak to a manager and was promised a call. 2 weeks later this has not occurred and still has not from Sears or American Home Shield.
Four parts were delivered to my home home. The dishwasher was fixed but the tech left two screws on the floor and the old parts laying on my counter. Hopefully you don’t have small children or pets you can be harmed by carelessness. The washer tech one repaired one part and refused to replace the second part and proceeded to argue with me that it wasn’t needed. He also took the part with him that took 2 weeks to receive. My washer is still broken. Now 3 weeks later. Again when you call in you routed to the Philippines and they refuse to escalate the issue to a manager or to the US. Sears states there is nothing they can do even though their tech refused to complete his job and refuse to send him back out or return my part. American Home Shield refuses to help until I state BBB complaint.
Finally I get to the escalation department where I’m told they will send out another repairman to diagnose the issue. The issue has already been diagnosed and it will take another 2 weeks for the part delivery then another 1 week for a repair. I also was forced to complete 16 loads of laundry at a laundromat due to the continued delays. The women in Tennessee states there is nothing she can do except send out another repair person and if I cancel my plan I will be charged. She goes on the state that I have to go through the whole process again and I have no other choice. No refunds will be provided. No credits. No refund for the laundry. I ask for her manager. She refuses until I push.
Finally I get a supervisor. She states I can have a $100 credit for the parts towards a new washer or have a repair man come out and agrees may take up to 3 weeks again. She does have have the authority to credit my laundry costs or refund any fees to cancel my policy. I state that to put in a request to have corporate contact me. I will continue my statements of my experience with their company and warning to all consumers to AVOID THIS COMPANY at all cost. Horrible customer service and experience. I wish this on no one and hours and hours of my time this is not worth it.
Wow Jenifer! You have been put through so much and I apologize for that. I hate to that we did not provide satisfactory service. Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a great week.

The fridge in my rental property started to act funny, American Home Shield send 2 different companies to diagnose the problem and each company had a different version on what is the problem. After 2 months of not fixing the issue one of the companies decided to blame me as I tampered the fridge on purpose which is ridiculous since I don't even live in the house and have a tenant there.
I hired a 3rd company on my own and the guy that came in was super honest and said he stopped working with AHS since they don't respect their clients and the contractors. He gave me an estimate with a totally different diagnoses from what American Home Shield contractors gave me and promised to fix the issue. I fixed it with him and will be sending the bill to AHS via small claims court to cover the costs. I will not continue with this company as their ethics and customer service is horrible, the managers promising to call you back but never do. BAD BUSINESS!!!
I apologize for the inconvenience Eytan. I will look at your account in an effort to resolve your issue. I just sent you an email. I look forward to assisting you.

We've used AHS as a secondary insurance for our appliances, a/c units, etc at our main home & rental property for two years. We had to use the policy one time and this one request for service on our dryer was a fiasco. It took almost two weeks for them to process the claim, get a technician out, then approve the technician to work on the dryer. We had to call AHS multiple times to check on the status and each time we had to explain our claim with a different associate (most who speak broken English). Each time they told us they would call us back and never did. AHS is very difficult to work with--it's as if the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing and they do not care about their customers. We are cancelling our policies.
I hate to hear that the warranty has not been beneficial to you. I would like to hear more about your experience as I just sent you an email. I look forward to speaking with you.

This is my first time trying to get an appliance fixed. The repair was scheduled, paid as they take payment from acct that monthly fees are drawn from, and confirmed by email but no one showed up. First I was told to wait a few more hours but I didn't feel that was acceptable and was transferred to their escalation desk and ONE HOUR later was told no request for service went through to company (Sears) they sent the job to. I was given another number in US to resolve this and ended up on a different customer service number again. Just to speak to a person I used the phone prompt for sales, they always answer that number, and the woman was kind enough to take info and forward to someone in service. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get a callback and my dryer eventually gets fixed as quickly as possible. So far I've paid for nothing and apparently no repair is scheduled. Very frustrating!!!
Hi Regina,
I understand your frustration with regard to the missed appointment to have the appliance repaired. I would be glad to speak with you to discuss your experience.

I had my regular scheduled maintenance and the person told me that the drip pan was completely rusted through and had holes on it, and then he noticed that some motor needed to be replaced. He said the AC was gonna last about two more weeks and I was gonna be without one because the capacitor was running at 5%. And then they came out and fixed it.
The last time, it took it way too long. A separate claim had to be submitted because the AC company that I used to do the regular scheduled tune-up maintenance is not a contracted provider of American Home Shield. So, then I had to go make a claim, have them dispatched a different company, and then I showed them the report, and they checked and confirmed, “Yes, they’re right. Those things are not in working order.”
But this time when I filed a claim online they offered to send me a contractor the next day. But since I couldn’t do it because of my work schedule and it wasn’t an emergency, they came in 48 hours. Usually I can’t get one that fast. So this claim actually went really smoothly. They did the capacitor switch on site with that appointment and then they had to order the drip pan. So, they came out a couple days later with the drip pan and it was very efficient.
Good morning Elizabeth,
Your feedback is more than appreciated regarding your most recent AHS experience. I hope you continue to enjoy the warranty and contractors that service you.

We had an air conditioning issue and I did a claim for it with American Home Shield online. They were very responsive and quick. I got a text as soon as I submitted the claim, and then, the company that they contracted with called me. The guy who came out was very nice. He was very professional and very efficient. He came in, did what he needed to do, and left. He was also very helpful in explaining what some of the issues were and what we needed to pay attention to going forward.
Other than that, we had two different AC issues that AHS came out for. And the first one, it didn’t seem like the original problem was fixed all the way. That happens, and I wasn’t upset about that. But when I had to resubmit online to get them to come back out, it wasn’t very clear that I was submitting for the same reason. So, it charged me another service fee when it was for the same issue. I had some issues with customer service then. I don’t know if they outsource out of the country, but there definitely seemed to be some language barriers and some difficulties in them understanding what I was trying to explain. And so, I spent a lot of time on the phone trying to get it resolved.
Hi Lori,
Your feedback is more than appreciated. It was a pleasure to read about your experience and I hope you continue to enjoy AHS.

I went online and I put in a service order with American Home Shield for our plumbing issues. And someone ended up calling me from the other end. They set it up, and the person from 2 Sons called me. They came in and fixed the dripping water in the kitchen faucet and shower head in the bathroom. The contractor mentioned that there was an elastic thing inside the shower head that broke, so he fixed that. The same thing was happening for the kitchen faucet, so he tightened it as well. He didn't have the kitchen faucet elastic ring. He did mention that it was because my home was a little bit built in a different age, so he had to go and find it from one of the stores and he would be back. So, he gave me a time limit which was 24 hours.
He came back and fixed it. And when he fixed it, he made me sign something and then he took off. He was very professional. I like the fact that he was very thorough. When he finished a specific job, he ended up explaining what he did. And then he also had the time to show me how to do it just in case in the future I decided that I wanted to do it for myself before I called them. Things has been so far, so good. The water is no longer dripping. It was something minor, so that was really nice. It was my first time calling in, so it was really nice for me to know that I could do all of that at once for the first time.
Rowda,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.
