I have a broken water pipe in my garage. American Home Shield sent Prime Plumbing Services out for it. The process of submitting the claim for it was easy. But it's still ongoing. Prime is supposed to come back out on Friday. The contractor broke the drywall. And he sent a letter back to American Home Shield. They determined that they're not gonna cover it. I'm gonna pay for it on Friday. It should be $225.

I filed a claim for my refrigerator freezer and the contractor was wonderful. He knew that the reason it was chunking up was that it was leaking. It had a tiny leak which I didn’t see, but he showed me. We had ice forming and we were always having to take the ice out. The small leak just kept forming bigger ice cubes, and we would have to take the thing out and dump it. Then one day, with the weight of all those heavy ice cubes, it just came crashing through. He had to fix the whole thing. He explained everything and came back. He was very professional. I've had people in here that had badmouthed American Home Shield terribly, but he was great about doing the job from beginning to end.

It has been slow to make ice, so I just hope that it is fixed right. We have ran out of ice which we never did before. I’ve kinda wanted to give it a little bit of time to see if it was just us or the new part so I’m just leaving it alone for right now. However, I don’t like that they want to collect the deductible when you’re not sure if they can fix what your problem is. They’re kinda not good about that because they wanna collect the money upfront.

Our AC wasn’t working and Total Air Care came and they fixed it. It’s working great now. They were professional, they were on time, they explained they needed to do, and was in there and was out. The technician was knowledgeable. Submitting claims with American Home Shield is very easy. But the online does not cover some issues. The online version does not allow you to insert options that are not already preformatted.

With the air conditioning unit, if you got a heating and a cooling unit and your heating unit is not working properly, it only asks you something about a furnace or oil. I think that those are formatted for heating options that are in the northern United States and not necessarily what is listed in the southern where you just have natural gas that goes into all of your unit. And for a lay person, how do you determine if the air conditioner is keeping the heat from working or the working that’s affecting the other when all of that is all together. So, I think that needs to be addressed.

On the initial claim that I did, I did it online and I told them that the unit kept giving me an option for the air conditioning unit. So I knew that the air and the heat worked together. This was during the winter months. And so, they came out to fix an air conditioning unit and not the heating portion of it, and it became a little bit for them to get it repaired because that was not what was in the computer and not what they were told to do. Other than that, the contractors are professional. They come right in, do what they have to do, and let me know what they were doing. They let me know that they’re on their way, too. The two techs I’ve had have been very good.

I would certainly recommend American Home Shield for its customer friendly service over other home warranties. They’re easy to deal with, their responsibilities for the homeowner are clear, so you know what you’re getting. That’s a good plus. I’d like to see it so that if you have one or two things that needs addressing while they’re there, that they could just make one trip, I think that that would be a plus if we could do it like that.

One of the valves in the compressor of our AC was stuck. It wasn’t working and it was like locked up. And that unit was almost 20 years old, and it just was in real bad shape when it blew whatever that thing was. I think it was unrepairable. I submitted a claim to AHS and the process was very easy. They were very cooperative. The Montz’s AC people came out the next day, were able to get what we needed and replaced within a few days. And right now, it’s all running really well. And then before that, a garbage disposal went out. The plumber that AHS sent came with a replacement because the motor was leaking, and it was old too. And so, they were able to come in and replace it the same day that they did the service call. It was repaired and that was really good. I recommend AHS to people all the time.

I had an issue with the air conditioner and I called on the phone to American Home Shield. They gave me a claim number and I submitted the claim by FAX. I had to pay for it and then I would get a discount on it. The service from the contractor was great. It’s just the older gentleman that came told us the truth when they did the assessment. He said that the coil in the air conditioner had to be replaced and in a couple of months, that was gonna go out because it’s 16 years on that unit. It also has an old Freon in it and then they have new Freon unit so he said that I might as well replace the system. It's only supposed to last 13 years before replacing it. I don’t know anything about that. I said that I don’t wanna spend eighteen hundred to repair and then two months later it goes back out that was why I was wanting to get a new one. But I went on and got it repaired so I don’t know what’s gonna happen. It’s still up and going.

It took a while to get everything in but it was a good experience. They were very honest about what their assessments were. They did a fabulous job of giving two different estimates 'cause homeowners don’t know much about HVAC systems. They walked us through the steps on what they were doing, what needs to be done and what they were gonna do and the extent of it. I’m satisfied right now.

We closed on our house on May 20th and have been with American Home Shield for not even a month. We called them when our garbage disposal stopped up. The claims process was pretty easy. The contractor who came was extremely nice and helpful. He fixed the problem. We had never had a stopped up garbage disposal. There was a little household tool that the previous owners had on the kitchen counter. The contractor showed me how to use it. Everything is fine.

Recently, our AC went out. Our service was scheduled for Friday because we weren't having that big of an issue. But when the AC completely went out yesterday, I had to call American Home Shield back and they called the contracted company to get them to come earlier. They’ve been really helpful. The soonest a technician could come out was Wednesday. It kinda stinks to wait two days, but they’re super busy. American Home Shield can’t help their contractor to get anybody out sooner.

We initially had a replacement put in but then it still had a leak problem. We had to bring the contractor back a second time and he did something else. He was really good.

We had at least four visits for our AC unit. It started shortly after we had bought the house. The heating system and the cooling system were kinda combined. It’s a heat pump. And when we moved in in November, we noticed that it wasn’t heating. It shut off. So, American Home Shield sent someone out and serviced it. And then it was shortly after that then there was another issue that had come up. They came back out again, and they had replaced the compressor and the switch on the outside. They had also replaced the air exchange unit upstairs in the attic. And things were working fine. Then when we switched over a month or so ago to the air conditioning, then the air conditioner ran for just a short period of time and then it shut off.

And so, we had somebody come out and take a look at it at that point. And they’d indicated that they used a safety shutoff switch up in the pan, and there was moisture that collected in the pan, so it automatically shut the system down. So, it had dried up by that point. We cleaned it out and then put the switch back in. It ran for 45 minutes like that after the service guy had left. Then it shut off again because the problem wasn’t fixed. So, we had contacted Home Shield. They sent the guy back out again. And he said, “Well, my thought might be that when they installed the air exchange unit upstairs that they may not have gotten it level.” So, he took the side off of it and said that was the problem.

When the installers put in that system, they had forgotten to get it really level. So, the condensation that forms from the coils would drop into the pan, but it wouldn’t run back to the drain side. It would run over the edge of the pan, and then down into the catch pan that’s underneath that system, and it would shut the system off. So, then they called up Haskins Heating & Air Conditioner who were the ones that had installed the new unit upstairs. They came back and they leveled the whole unit. And it’s functioning fine now ever since.

The contractor came out after he was called. But the good news is after he was contacted in the beginning that we were having troubles and that they’d installed the unit, he called within a matter of hours, and he came out that same day, which was nice. We’d been without the air conditioning system for a couple of weeks probably. I’d have to go up to the attic and wipe the pan out. And then I eventually just took that shutoff switch outta the pan. I’d run it for the morning there, so it would cool the house down. And then I would have to go back up and drain the pan out that’s out there, so it would operate again the next time. The contractor from Haskins came out quickly and he and his workmate had finally finished that for us and got it leveled out so that everything was working fine.

We’re glad that the sellers had agreed to pay for American Home Shield as far as the insurance policy. When we had moved down here, we were thinking that things should be fine. The house was built in 2006. But our agent suggested that they get the Home Shield warranty on it, which cost us about $850, and then 75 three different times. But with that, through the warranty, the compressor, the switch, and the air exchange unit upstairs were replaced. So, we came out ahead.

I contacted American Home Shield when there was a leak on one of the sinks coming from one of the pipes in the bathroom in the hallway. And that got fixed. When we were putting the fridge, there's a little spigot in the back of where the fridge is, but it's a waterline that goes to the ice maker and the water in the fridge. That little spigot valve there was not working, so we had a flooding incident on the day that we moved in. The guy came out and he fixed that. He came out knowing that it was broken, and it was on the initial repair and when we discovered that was broken. But he came out without the parts he needed, and then he went outside and kicked all his stuff all over the ground and soldered some stuff together and made one and put it in. And then, there was another part that American Home Shield deemed would've been through calcium build-up within the tap, and they didn't cover that.

The people at J&K Plumbing told me that they were gonna call American Home Shield and get the prices for those parts to fix the tap and the garbage disposal. I made about four calls to J&K Plumbing over the next 10 days, asking them where they were up to, and they kept telling me that they sent everything off to American Home Shield and were waiting on approval. They've got all the prices for the valves and things that they needed. And then, I went online and saw on American Home Shield's website that the ticket was completely closed. So then, I called American Home Shield and they said they'd never had anything back from J&K Plumbing.

American Home Shield said that J&K Plumbing told them that there was calcium build-up on the tap, and also that the garbage disposal had seized and that was possibly due to the calcium build-up as well. They didn't cover those and they just closed the ticket down and said no one was gonna cover those anyway. But they hadn't until that day heard anything from J&K Plumbing. American Home Shield called J&K Plumbing and got the diagnostics from them that day. But J&K Plumbing had told me a week before and several times in the days following that, that they had submitted everything to American Home Shield and were waiting on approval, which they had not.

Now I've paid out of pocket for the garbage disposal because I needed one, and American Home Shield wasn't gonna pay. I didn't even use the J&K Plumbing people because they were a bit unprepared and unprofessional. So I didn't wanna work any further with them. So I had Benjamin Franklin Plumbers come out and replace the garbage disposal. The Benjamin Franklin people said that I might as well replace all of the taps and the faucets on the bathtub, instead of them opening up the faucet and ordering the parts.

I also had American Home Shield for five years at my old house. I called them to cancel that policy once I moved out of the house and the rep told me that it was cancelled. But then I discovered that they haven't cancelled it. Somehow, they hadn't taken money from my credit card, so then it shows to be a past due payment. But it wasn't attached to any credit card anymore, so they weren't drawing it. I called American Home Shield about that again and spoke to somebody. I made three calls about that. So the third time, it was still showing that there was a cancellation fee, and I apparently didn't really cancel them. I cancelled one policy and got another policy on the new home that I bought. So, without me looking there back on the computer, I couldn't tell whether the charges are still sitting there or not.

I gave American Home Shield an 800 call when my air conditioner wouldn't work. The process was easy and American Home Shield was on it right away. The next day, I got a call from Hansen saying that they'd be out in three to five days which they did. They diagnosed the problem, ordered a part, and said they’d be back when the part came in. When the part came in, they came back, and they started to install it. They were about three hours on it when they said it was not gonna work. They were gonna have to replace it. I then had to file another request, which American home Shield said to just turn in. I did and I got an immediate response that said that I’d hear back from them. I didn’t hear anything from Hansen. I called them and they said they haven’t gotten an approval yet. But I told them that I talked to American Home Shield and they said it was approved.

There was a customer service representative from American Home Shield who was a nice woman. She said she would get on it. The next day, I got a call from American Home Shield. This was on a Wednesday. She said they ordered the replacement and it would be in on Friday. Hansen can install it on Saturday. From the start, it took about a month because there were two issues. But that was understandable. That's just the way things happen. It was like two claims at the same time. But everything was great. I would get text messages from American Home Shield of who was gonna do the service and when they were gonna do it. I'd then get a text the company, this case from Hansen, that they were on their way and that they would be there between 9:00 and 11:00. I was very satisfied with it all. It was a first-rate deal.

We've had a great experience with American Home Shield. But there's been a few hiccups here and there. We've been with them since we purchased our home seven years ago and their prices have gone up every time. We went from $38 a month. Now, we're up to 78. However, my complaint is, is we got a letter in the mail the other day saying that they are no longer going to renew our plan, and that we have to upgrade to this new plan. Meanwhile, we have not upgraded anything new in our home that needs to be covered, and that was a very big disappointment.

We referred many, many people to AHS over these places like Choice Home and all that stuff, because they are extremely reliable and good. They have quality services that work for me that can facilitate our needs. Their customer service has also gotten much better as far as phone wise. But we got a letter in the mail that said they will cover our contract until September, which is when it expires, but they will not renew it unless we pay now $120 a month. And that's very discouraging after being a loyal customer and participant. We own things in our home, and that's why we have a coverage plan, and to be cut off from that and not renewed does not make sense at all to me. But we really don't wanna lose them. Back then, when they were servicing and I was paying, even though their rates went up all the time, we were getting the service that we were paying for.

We had a broken oven and submitting the claim for it with American Home Shield was very easy. I went online and placed my claim. And then I was contacted via text, email and then, eventually, the call from the contractor. The contractor was a very nice and professional man. And on top of this, he established the problem, found out what parts he needed to have to fix the oven, and the next time they scheduled an appointment, he came and fixed it.

So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been good. Unfortunately for me, it’s an old property and we have a lot of old appliances. And every time something breaks, I always think that it’s time to put a new one. We always try to patch it up, which in the long run I think is not very cost-effective for me. I have to pay my monthly payments, then I have to pay the fee for the contractor to come. So this is all adding to high cost yearly. It will be a better deal for both sides if at some point, AHS would look into long term cost-effectiveness. Sending contractors every six months to fix something doesn’t make sense. And, for me, also, it is a waste of time. Because hardly ever, no matter how well I describe the model of appliance or the issue that I’m facing, every time, it is a minimum two visits, which means somebody has to be at home twice as a minimum. It means we have to maneuver work and everything to accommodate.

Also, the contractor always gives a time bracket, which means one of us has to be out of work for half a day no matter what. And with the current prices of new appliances, I was even considering not to call AHS because I expected that this will happen. Maybe it’s better for us if we just buy a new oven. We decided finally to go the other way.

I am NOT taking cash in lieu of nor am I waiting any longer for a working washer. On 7/1 it will be 77 days since I filed the claim on 4/15/19.

Original Review: I called AHS on 4/17/19 because my washer was NOT spinning. They sent a reputable company and after 5 visits and replacing 5 different parts-washer still NOT spinning. The washer was only 18 months old and my 1 year warranty on parts and labor had expired but Samsung was willing to pay for the parts which is why AHS would not replace the washer. 62 days later and washer still not spinning. AHS is now sending a 2nd contractor. Did I mention that I was offered $190 for a $480 washer? I told AHS where they could stick their $190..Fix it or replace it!

First of all I really want to say this ""Beware of this company."" You may be just giving your money away, I have been a customer of American Home Shield for almost a year, now that I need their service, of course you have to pay a 100.00 service call, which I don't have any problems with. The problem that I have is that, they don't cover AC Freon just 10.00 per pound, and they said that my system takes 11 pounds of Freon (1,265 ), that's what I have to pay to have an AC Evaporator repair done. Guess how much their contractor charge for each pound of Freon. 125.00 per pound that means that I need to pay 1,265 out of my packet. One tank of Freon (R-140a) of 25 pounds cost around 150 dollars and they said they can't reuse the Freon that is in the unit, which to me is a complete lie.

Now I look for a different way to fix this problem trying to get my own certify company, they said that I can do that but they will just cover 110 for the whole repair, so here you have it people why I'm paying almost 900.00 a year for a company that don't cover no more than 110 dollars for an AC Evaporator repair. When I asked why they just cover 110 for the whole repair they said that is because they don't pay retail price to their contractors, now I see why I have to pay to this contractor 1,265 dollars is because I'm paying for the whole repair myself. The private company is charging me 1,450 for the whole repair, so please do yourself a favor. Don't throw your money away with this company. Save your money monthly. When you need a repair you will have the savings to do it.

It has taken over 2 MONTHS to get my AC in working function, which it is still not. After 2 summers of band aid repairs AHS finally agreed to properly replace the condenser and coil. I was pleased with this information, only to find out this was the start of my nightmare. From the get go I was bounced to 3 different contractors, I'm assuming to get the cheapest quote, only to be saddled up with the most inept of the bunch. I would have to repeatedly call AHS and the Contractor to try to see what was going on and to continue to push the repair forward.

After having calls dropped by AHS they would not call back and I would have to consistently repeat the problem over and over to the customer service department. After AHS informed me that all parts were with the contractor and ready for installation the contractor showed up AND DIDN'T HAVE THE COIL. The technician had no clue that he was supposed to replace the coil so that all the refrigerant didn't just leak out of the system when he installed the condenser.

I called the contractor only to find out AHS delivered the wrong coil to them or didn't deliver it at all. Then radio silence again for over a week. Finally, the contractor called and stated the coil was a special product and wouldn't be available for 2 more week (2 months into this repair). I called AHS to try to get this handled or expedited only to be hung up on again, call back again, and then told that I'd have to call back when it wasn't the weekend, SO I'D HAVE TO GO THROUGH IT ALL AGAIN. Long story short this experience so far has been the worst most frustrating and redundantly useless experience I have ever had to go through. And to top it all off I STILL HAVE NO FUNCTIONAL AC. 2 months in and counting.

DEPLORABLE customer service. They play a game if you need to request a refund from them. Although I have been happy with the technician services over the years, when it comes to AHS issuing the customer a refund (for various reasons), they give a major runaround, such as continually placing your call back into the queue, putting you on hold for extended periods, and not making notifications of your refund request in the files. This has happened on the two occasions I have requested a refund, such as for cancelling a service request due to taking four days to even get a call from the technician to schedule an appt. and for cancelling my AHS contract due to selling my house. It is a game they play.

My experience has with American Home Shield has been a catastrophe. I've been with them for a couple of decades and I've found that the quality of service has continued to decline. I'm sure it's a constant challenge for American Home Shield to try to find reputable and diligent contractors and I sympathize with them. Even so, I've stopped subscribing because I found it to be a waste of money. When I moved into a new house in October, I decided to give it another try thinking maybe they've done some QA. I've been paying 50 plus dollars since then.

Recently, I had my built-in microwave go on the fritz. I called AHS and got contacted by Express Appliance. A very nice gentleman came out, moved some things around, assured my wife that the microwave was fixed, then left. But then, the microwave still didn't work. We called again and the same gentleman came out and tried to fix it a second time. That didn't work. AHS and their contractor ordered some more parts and a different tech came out. That tech said that they didn't have all the parts needed and that they would have to order the missing parts. That was a week ago.

Today, when I called Express Appliance to tell them the part has arrived at my home, I was disconnected twice. I waited for somebody to pick up my call for over 25 minutes. At that point, I was somewhat disgusted. The lady with whom I finally spoke with was very apologetic. She explained there were only three people in the office to receive the calls, which means they're terribly understaffed. Currently, we have somebody scheduled to come out this Wednesday between 11:00 and 3:00. This will be the fourth time that my wife or I will have missed work for our microwave.

The air conditioner was broken and American Home Shield had somebody come over. I filed my claim online, which was very easy and then, AHS got back in 24 hours. So, it has worked very good. The contractor let me know when he was coming, what time it was and explained what he was doing. I've got one zone for upstairs and another one for downstairs. The one upstairs is the one that's having a problem. He went through and said that there was no pressure. He was gonna charge it with nitrogen and that filled up the space in the house and the pipes. Then he said he would come back in a couple days and check again to make sure. If the pressure was still up there, then he knew that it would be outside that was the problem. So, he came back Friday. Earlier, he called me so they could be there early, which was good.

The same guy took a look at it and he said that the pressure was still there and the outside unit must be changed. So, he was gonna go back and the lady was gonna file a claim with AHS. I'm just waiting to hear about the claim and wondering if they can come and repair the machine. I've been impressed with AHS so far. I was recommended to them by a friend of mine that has had multiple calls and he has been very impressed with them too.

They're pretty busy at the beginning of the season here. But once they came out, the gentleman diagnosed the problem and then ordered the parts. We have two homes that are covered by American Home Shield. We have additional coverage for a second refrigerator on both policies. And in my Hot Springs Village home, the second refrigerator which sat right outside the door in the two-car garage quit cooling. So, we turned in a service order on it. The repair guy came out and said it was not covered because it’s sitting in the garage. He said that was what American Home Shield told him. I pulled out the contract and it didn't say anything like that. So, I called in three times and tried to talk to a representative. The rep was hard to understand and argued with me that it wasn’t covered. When I finally proved to them that it was covered, they put me on hold.

The second time, I wound up talking to a supervisor. We went through the same thing again. He said it was not covered. But finally, he agreed that it was, said he had to run it through an approval process, put me on hold for a little while, came back, and said it was gonna take a while. He asked if I would like him to call me back. So, I had to do that and I never heard from him. So, I got it escalated up and the lady looked at the facts and read the contract. And she said she got a company out of Little Rock to come fix it, and it worked fine. So, my experience with the call center was terrible. My experience with the escalation was wonderful. I should’ve never had to escalate it at all. It was very simple. You read the contract and it said it’s covered. And when you tell somebody you’re gonna call back, you need to call them back. This dragged out over a 10-month period.

But I had to call back as the second unit went out. The contractor came out to repair it and they're charging me the service fee again. I don't see why I'm being charged for service for the second call. But I was very grateful that the contractor was able to resolve the problem right away. It was something I needed immediately taken care of. I live in the lower Rio Grande Valley where our temperatures get to 100 degrees.

This contractor is the same company that American Home Shield has always called out. They've always been excellent. Even when I've had an issue that they needed to come back, they would come back and take care of the problem. They respond right away. As soon as I put the call in, they would call or text me and tell me to call in and schedule an appointment. And it's usually within 24 hours. It's been great. When my air conditioning wasn't cooling, I did a service request online and the American Home Shield site seemed relatively simple, straightforward, and easy to use. The website told me that a contractor would contact me within 48 business hours. I did my claim on a Friday and they didn't contact me until Monday. I had to wait the weekend without an AC because it was a holiday weekend. But I had minor suffering as the temperature was not as bad as it is now which is almost 90 where I am in Virginia. Back then, it was a little cooler so it wasn't too bad. I had some fans running and I was able to stay relatively comfortable.

A technician from Billy's A/C came out on Memorial Day Monday. He wasn't happy about it, but he did the work anyway. He put in at least a pound of refrigerant and the sealer leak detector stuff. The AC has been working fine since then. I had the same company and the same guy come out here last year when I had a problem with the AC. They took care of me then. I've had no problems with Billy's A/C Service. I've also had no problems with American Home Shield. I talked to several people, including my friends, about the company and recommended them.

The only thing is I just got something in the mail from American Home Shield saying that their rate is going up again for my coverage. It was two years ago that my rate went up. I understand prices and things change. It's only a dollar and something, but still, nobody like a price increase. The price keeps going up little by little. The first eight years I had the program, it stayed at the same price. But now, for the past two or three years, it went up twice. It's still affordable though so I'm gonna keep it. I just hope things level out for a while price-wise. When someone comes out, I have to pay $75 to American Home Shield for a vendor's visit.

A panel on the stove was malfunctioning and when I filed a claim to American Home Shield, there was no form when I selected it. It looked like the appliances were covered under that, but it was not. So, the electrician came and left, and I had to go a different route. When submitting claims, it's more difficult to do it over the phone so I usually go online. I would prefer it if there was an easier access to a person. I could've verified whether or not that appliance was covered under the warranty or I needed to have gone a different route. Most times, I'll do things online but in this case, there was a question of whether it was covered or not and who I had to call. And that was the difficult issue.

The contractors were professional and I had no problems with them. The only other time that I used them was to re-key the locks on the house. They were prompt, courteous and did their job the way they were supposed to be done. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. We had our microwave out for about two months and the first guys that American Home Shield sent out never contacted us again. I had to contact AHS several times to find out what was going on. And apparently, it was a problem with the contractor. AHS then reassigned Hornet Appliance and they came right out and took care of it. They were really good. AHS is doing a replacement for it, but I'm having trouble figuring out about it. I emailed them. I found a KitchenAid that was in the price range and I had to follow-up on them about it. By the time they got back to me, it was five days later and the sale was over, so the item was $200 more. But right now, we are approved to replace it. I just have to go out and buy one, and I need to submit something and then I’ll get reimbursed.

We used to have another warranty company for a number of years, and then we switched over to American Home Shield for the price. But the air conditioning coverage is not very good with AHS. When our air conditioner broke, we had to pay out of pocket for a new one because they were just gonna replace the coil. The contractor explained that we could patch it up, but it would break down again. And we would already have to pay $1,200 for the patch-up. I’m not really happy with their air conditioning service, but we’ve had a few appliances that have needed looking at and I'm happy with the other stuff.

Submitting a claim with AHS was really easy since I started doing them online for the most part. I like the new feature on there where I can select a contractor. But, it would be nice to make it more obvious when you're signing up on their website. The first time I did it online, I missed it. Whereas the next time, I noticed that I can select someone else. So, I clicked on the dropdown and picked someone else and looked at the reviews. The reviews there are really helpful because, in the past, it has been frustrating. Sometimes, you get a great contractor, and other times the contractor will just blow you off and you don't ever hear back from them.

My air conditioning wasn’t coming on and based on what the technician told me, there was an issue with the fuse within the motherboard of the system. I submitted a claim online with AHS and it was extremely easy. After not more than 10 minutes, someone was scheduled to come out and the tech came out the very next day. He was great. He was running a little late, so he made sure to call me. I also received a call from American Home Shield letting me know that the technician was running a little behind and they gave me the time window when he’d be here.

He arrived in that time, wore his little foot booty thingy, came in the house, and took his time to kinda assess the problem. It took him about 45 minutes to let me know that he was really trying to hone in on the issue, which he did, and realized that the fuse needed to be changed. Then he went ahead and placed the order for the part. The part came in about three days later then the second technician came out on a Saturday morning. He arrived on time, had the issue resolved, and the AC was blowing within 30 minutes. Since the repair, the unit's performance has been awesome and I can’t complain. All in all, AHS should keep doing what they’re doing. Also, my brother texted me because he had been having issues with his home warranty company and I recommended American Home Shield to him today. We live in the Oklahoma City Metro area and AHS has only ONE Heat and Air company on their vendor list. This lone contractor does not come out on weekends and unfortunately our AC doesn't break down during the week during normal business hours. So I call AHS to ask if we can use an outside contractor that will come out at 7pm on a Saturday night and he said "no" that that is not within their guidelines. That we will have to use their lowly contractor and he will come out 24-48 hours after placing the service request. AHS needs to seriously re-visit their AC guidelines. Waiting 48 hours during the summer in Oklahoma for the AC repairman is not okay. We pay a fortune to AHS for our contract and expect a little better customer service from them for weekend breakdowns like this.

I contacted American Home Shield to request a service call for my upstairs AC unit. It stopped blowing cold air or air for that matter. I submitted it online and the overall claims process was fairly simple. But it took a week to get someone out. I live in Tennessee and it was pretty hot during that week. They typically send out Greenway. But maybe they should consider getting a secondary company to use, so it wouldn't take so long. Other than that, it was fine. The guy who came out provided excellent customer service. He presented me with a couple of options in regards to the repair of my AC unit. And it's doing well since the repair. Now, we can go up and downstairs, whereas before, my daughter was sleeping downstairs because it was so hot upstairs.

I called American Home Shield for an air conditioning unit that wasn't working. Then the contractor called, left a message and I called back. It was the Memorial Day weekend so I didn’t hear back from them. I called again after the holiday was over, and the man was very nice. He said they never got the call. He never got the message. But he did call me twice and leave two messages. He came that day and told me that the AC unit needed Freon and there was a part or motor that wasn’t working in the condenser. They fixed it and I paid them the $90 per pound that American Home Shield doesn’t cover for the Freon, which was $270. We got good service with American Home Shield. It’s not the cheapest thing online, but it’s good. My cousin recommended American Home Shield to me ‘cause I had something else that was useless.

I went online and put in a claim. I got an email response pretty quick. I set it up in the morning and by the afternoon, I got a text message and a call that said the contractor would be there by the next day. They showed up on time and called before they arrived. Recently, American Home Shield had somebody come in to do a rekey for me. I had just purchased my home. And the seller purchased the warranty program from American Home Shield for a year. One of the things that was offered was the rekey for $75. The experience was good. It took them a little while to come out, but that was mainly because of my availability. I was only available on evenings. The two gentleman that came out were done in 15 minutes at the most. And they did exactly what I wanted. I had three locks for them to service that I wanted to have one essential key for, and they did that for me. And then I had two or three bedrooms upstairs that I sort of wanted the same deal. They were able to get it done quickly. And they were nice and professional and it was a great experience.

Initially, there was a little bit of difficulty with the process. There were some issues with getting a hold of American Home Shield. There was a little bit of phone time for a day or two and a couple of voicemails back and forth. I initially called and it went to voicemail. They returned my call very quickly, but then I would call back, and then it just went to voicemail again. So, getting a hold of them was a little bit difficult. But everything else was good and once the guys came out, that was great.

Our ac was making this really bad, clunking sound, and we’ve called AHS two times on this issue. It was different guy first, who was from Bob's Cooling. He said, “This thing needs to be replaced because it was rusted out.” And then they sent out a second person to make sure that guy diagnosed the problem correctly. That was Desert Heating & Cooling, and the contractor said, “Yes, that does need to replaced.” And then, they replaced it.

I have five properties with AHS and things come up because they’re rentals, and submitting a claim is a piece of cake. I just go online, do my claims and they’re Johnny-on-the-spot, get somebody scheduled and out here. But the only difficulty I’ve had the whole time with them is if I do have to call them, I am put on hold for an obnoxious amount of time. And the only other complaint that I have if they’re wanting to improve their service, is that this last time I called in regarding a plumbing issue on a house up in Crestline and the plumber said that they called it in, and I was supposed to have to pay $475 out of my pocket. I don’t have a problem with that, but when I called, American Home Shield knew nothing about this.

When I called the plumber back and said, “Hey, my insurance company knows nothing about this.” They said, “Well, we called it in.” So, there was a little lack of communication, and that happened before. But other than that, I think they’re a fantastic company. I would definitely refer them as a warranty company. And pne of the things that they have done that I think is fantastic is that they have a live chat now, which I’m so appreciative of. Because I would rather do it on a computer than talk on the phone or be on hold for 25 minutes and waste my time. I’m so happy with what they did well.

The dishwasher wasn't draining and Sears was the repair people that AHS sent. They arrived early, were very professional, and they were able to resolve the issue pretty quickly. Apparently, there was some glass stuck in the dishwasher somewhere and they were able to remove it and give us some advice about how to prevent that from happening again.

Before the dishwasher, there was an issue with our radiator and I had a problem when I submitted my claim. I did it through the website and it was assigned to someone. They showed up, helped out with the problem, and resolved the issue. But when they said the job was completed on their end, I was getting charged twice. For some reason, it appeared like I was submitting a new claim for them and it was trying to charge me again for the service and so I called American Home Shield. The problem was identified and it was resolved. AHS handled it pretty efficiently. I didn't feel like anything was wrong with the service that I got. For others that have purchased homes, I recommend using American Home Shield over other warranty services, particularly the ones that I've heard had worst issues and service. All the experiences I've had with AHS have been pretty good.

I would normally call when I submit a claim to American Home Shield and then, they would have me make a payment over the phone and send somebody out. The recent claim that I had was something simple and there wasn’t anything wrong with the air-conditioning unit. The contractor said that something was down on the outside. He just pushed a button and he was here for a few minutes. The service was good and he explained to my husband a couple of things. Everything has been perfect since then but every time the contractor comes out, it’s $100. They could be something like what I had and I feel like I paid him $100 just to say that it was down low on the outside. Right after that, my dryer went on the blank. It was completely gone. I didn’t call when the dryer went bad. I can go get a used dryer for $100 and put it back in there.

You have a lot of different appliances in the home and it’s cheaper to have AHS. You do get that one incident but for several incidents, it’s good to have. It can save you money in the long run if it’s for something bigger. It would really save me because it’s expensive to try to get a whole unit and have it come out of your pocket. In my case, it was a fairly new one but it could’ve been a unit. There was probably something the matter but we didn’t know what it was. The technician did and he was able to give my husband other tips about how to keep the furnace clean and told him about the filters. So, the young man who came out really did a good job.

They gave me a “complimentary” refund of the $75 basis service charge. However, they held firm on their payment of $10 per pound of A/C coolant, which actually cost $80 pe pound, and I still had to pay the $70 difference. Customer service was good and responsive, but (in my opinion) the fact that they only would $10 per pound is still unfair. There are so many exclusions or limitations in the contract, and one will never know what they are until it comes time to file a claim. When I bought AHS, I expected my coverage to be complete, and not full of “loopholes”, as I suspect other customers expect when they buy. Based on the customer service response ONLY, you can change my rating to a 2 out of 5.

    Original Review: June 16, 2019

Updated on 07/03/2019: The CS rep was very friendly and helpful - no complaints at all with her service. She even refunded My $75.00 service charge. However, they still only paid $10 per pound for A/C coolant that cost $80.00 per pound. Thus, for 4 lbs my net cost was $280 (4 X $70). When I bought AHS, I had no idea that my A/C would not be fully covered. My biggest fear is my possible next claim. What other "gotchas" will come up then?

One never knows what service will be needed in the future, and I am so disappointed that there may other "exclusions" or "limits" that will still cost me tons of money out of pocket for which I thought I had coverage. For example, if my refrigerator goes out, will I be shocked to find out that my specific model number is excluded from coverage? I would gladly pay a higher premium to have full coverage with no "surprises" when I have a claim. Better disclosure on exclusions and limitations upfront would enable me and other to better evaluate their product before committing to purchase the coverage.

Original Review: We went on vacation for two weeks, and when we came home, the house was not cooling. And so, I contacted American Home Shield by email and they sent somebody out. And the timely response was good. But I am not happy with the fact that when I bought the warranty, I thought my air conditioning was covered. When the service guy came out, he had to put four pounds of coolant in the system. He told me that the coolant costs $80 a pound, and the only thing that AHS would pay was $10 a pound. So, I wound up paying 4 pounds times $70, which is $280 and the $75 service charge. And I'm not happy with that at all because I can't help it if it cost $80.

I filed my claim on email, and I had no problems with the claims representative. The problem I have is I think that the guy that came out here and did the work screwed me because I can't imagine how I can only get paid $10 a pound for something that costs $80 a pound. But I haven't called American Home Shield yet. I've been so frustrated. Our AC is working fine now, but I paid $75 for the service call, and I paid $70 a pound for 4 pounds, and all AHS paid for was $40. And that's not right.

Other than that, the service guy did a good job. He was here on time and did what he had to do. But when he came and told me that I owed him $70 a pound, and he would only pay $10 a pound, I was shocked. It was hot and we needed our air conditioner working so I didn't raise any cane with him at that point in time. I've been with AHS ever since I bought this house and to get screwed like that is not right.

I'm close to renewal for my contract with them, which should be the third year. And I don't want to leave them, but I think I got screwed by the guys that came out here. When I bought this house, I paid for AHS to be my home warranty deal, but I can't understand when I have a $350 claim that they only wound up paying $40 of it. If every time when I file a claim, they're gonna tell me that, "Okay. Your claim is $300 and you're gonna pay $270 of it. Plus, you gotta pay me $75 to handle the service call," it's absolutely a rip-off.

And my wife used it about a few days later and she said the same thing. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent out an appliance guy, and he said it was the timer.

Contacting American Home Shield to get the dryer fixed was easy. I made a phone call and I spoke to a representative and they organized everything for me. They said that Crystal Appliance would call me within 24 hours. And, unfortunately, it was a weekend, so I made the first original on a Friday and I got a call on the Monday after that. They wanted to come more or less the following day. But, unfortunately, I couldn't do it. So, we scheduled a time around my schedule, and they were here when they said that they would be here.

The guy from Crystal Appliance was extremely helpful and knowledgeable person, extremely friendly, and he explained everything that he was going to do and that was what he did. He took down a part number and he said that he had to order the part, and he would give me a call as soon as the part comes in, and he was there the following day to install it. The dryer's working perfectly now.

I took "advantage of" AHS's $75 central air conditioning "tune-up". The technician said it checked out OK. Nothing wrong. A week later I turned it on and got hot air. The company AHS contracted could not come to diagnose for 6 days. He then said the entire unit (everything) had to be replaced and he would have to work up an estimate and submit it to AHS. That seemed reasonable but what did not seem reasonable at that time was he said I would have to pay $2,000-$3,000 to replace the lines and electrical. We are on social security and did not expect such a large additional amount but I would see. It is now into week three. The contractor does not answer his phone, his mailbox is full so you cannot leave a message. He does not respond to AHS's emails. That is the same response I and AHS got every time. This has been going on for two weeks and several calls to AHS.

When I called today, the person at AHS said the contractor submitted the diagnoses yesterday and I would have to wait ANOTHER 24 hours for AHS to respond. If it took 2 weeks to get the diagnosis, how long will it take them to actually fix it? My wife and I are senior citizens. I am 74 years old and am handicapped from a stroke. This whole process has been going on for three weeks now. Ridiculous. I tried to get AHS to assign a different contractor last week but every time I talked to AHS it was wait another 24 hours. What recourse do I have if this is not resolved quickly? I am posting this any place I can find.

There was a lot of back and forth between American Home Shield and the contractor doing the actual work so, I constantly had to call both companies to find out the status of the work order. I couldn't get a straight answer from anybody and everybody kept pointing the finger at the other in terms of where the claim was and its process.

And it wasn't done in a very timely manner. It took over a week to finally get everything said and done, with constant follow-ups on my part. Then, I did not receive a call from American Home Shield to let me know what the total cost was going to be and having information in a timely manner would be wonderful. I had to schedule the appointment with the installer prior to that, just to get this thing moving forward. So, that was my struggle. Other than that, the air conditioning is working better than before since the repair. But the contractor put a hole in my ceiling, so now, I'm waiting for them to come out and repair that. I usually make claims on the computer and it's very easy. Every time we've called the contractors, they've been very good. One time I looked on Yelp, and I saw that the contractor's stars weren't very good. I called up American Home Shield and they switched the person for me. We recently had leaky faucets and the fella that was sent out was wonderful. We were very pleased with the service.

After contacting American Home Shield for a claim, they open up a ticket and set it up, so somebody comes out and does some work. Unfortunately, it’s never same day unless you call back multiple times and escalate it, and they try and try and try. But they get somebody out there as soon as possible. Usually, I submit my claims online, but then I have to call because it’s not conducive. It’s almost as if they direct you online to avoid having to have you call. When you call, it’s always waiting like half an hour to get somebody on the line. But once you file a claim online, they tell you if someone will get in contact with you within 24 hours. I’d used them because I had a toilet overflow in the house and there was water everywhere. And their response was, “Someone will get back to you within 24 hours.” That's not what I paid a warranty for. I paid for if there's a emergency-type situation, they need to be able to expedite that.

American Home Shield needs to look at the services they offer and figure out a better way to assign task based on priority and needs. What if it’s 100 degrees out and some of the air conditioning breaks and there’s a nine-month-old baby in the house? Waiting for days for someone to come out is not acceptable. So, if it was my company, I would look at the severity of the issue. I know everyone thinks and wants their issue to be prioritized as best as they can, but AHS has to look at certain situations. A toilet flooding into a house causing more damage and ruining floors and drywall and molding creates a bigger issue. So, if you’re paying for a warranty for a home and they are covering these things, their goal should be to minimize risk and bigger issues. Else, there's no point in having a home warranty.

Other than that, American Home Shield sends the same company, Sirius Plumbing and Cooling, most of the time. Those guys are great. And I would recommend them to anyone. Recently, I had an issue with the AC unit. After looking that up, it looks like it had a piece or component that needed to be replaced. The Sirius folks always do a great job.

The handle of the microwave broke and it couldn’t be opened anymore. It was 25 years old, so American Home Shield had to get a new one because they stopped making the parts for it. I filed my claim online and a guy came out. He told me they couldn’t do it and then, American Home Shield got to me the next day. I went online and picked out a product. I didn't understand whether I was supposed to call the contractor or they were supposed to call me to do the installation. I had to contact them and they came right away. They actually came out a few minutes earlier, which was fine with me. They called me with a window of when they were coming. They were in and out and did it. Everything works great and there were no concerns once it was put in. It was a great experience with AHS. I’m gonna continue to use them and re-up with it, and I’d recommend them to a friend.

My AC and heater, together, is an old unit and it went out. I got the company that was servicing my AC unit for a year. They came and worked on it. But a month later, the problem seemed to reoccur. They found out something had to be replaced. So we called American Home Shield and we’re going through the process right now. American Home Shield sent out Coaches HVAC and the contractor came out the other day to install the part. He also checked the vents where the air comes out. They did a test and it was supposed to be 15%, and I guess it passed. But when the air blows, it loses coldness.

The contractor said the unit probably still has to be repaired. There's a little issue on the AC unit on the top of my roof and they might come back this week or next week. Something needs to be replaced but American Home Shield won’t cover it. That’s the only thing that sucks about it. Coaches can do it for me but they’re gonna charge me and it’s quite expensive. So I’m gonna do what I can. It’s also taking some time because one guy came and tested it then they gotta do paperwork and send that in. I’m waiting for their call to see if the part is gonna be replaced. But so far, they’re doing good. The AC is blowing way better. I love this unit. American Home Shield has also been doing great although sometimes, when I call to have something replaced, some people tell me one thing then some people in the same company tell me different stuff. They should be on the same page.

There was also one time that my toilets got a leak and it messed up my ceiling but American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it. I got into a big argument with the lady because it was secondary damage and I can’t understand why American Home Shield wouldn’t cover it. If it was 10 years ago, I would understand that. But the water has to go somewhere and it went on top of my garage. I got my toilets back-to-back and the leak come from upstairs. Something broke in the toilet so the water overflowed and drained all night. We were asleep. When I got up in the morning, I checked and went on to my garage. There was water flowing in my garage. It was a mess.

My cabinets got all damaged and soaked. I had to replace my cabinets. I actually did my whole garage and American Home Shield wouldn't cover that. The contractor that came out ripped the sheetrock and checked where the leak was coming from. I got a big hole in my ceiling and I had to pay somebody to come and fix it. I wasn’t happy with it. I wanted to speak to a manager, who was supposed to call me back, but I never received a call.

The washer was leaking in the front and we had someone come out and fix it for us. We just bought our house about three months ago. So, I don’t know if it was something that has been existing. We noticed it a month after moving in. I did the claim online and American Home Shield sent Hotshot Appliance. We were frustrated with them. They came out and only spent a minute in the house. They opened the door to the washer and said that they needed a part and then left. It took about a month and a half for them to get it. Yesterday, when they came out, it was two different guys. So far, the washer is okay, but it’s been a day.

If I have to call back for another repair, I would like to use a different company. Also, they weren’t very friendly. Usually, if they’re in your house, I’d expect they would ask to use paper towels and things like that, but they just did. We had somebody re-key the house when we first moved in and the re-key guy was good. The contractor for the AC was wonderful too and so, we’ve had a great experience so far. It was just this one contractor with the washer and I would prefer AHS use someone else.

I walked into my guest room, which is a room that's not used often, and I found that my rugs were all wet. I looked around and there's a drain from the AC unit that is right in the linen closet of that room. It was wet too. I put in a work order for it with American Home Shield. When I talked to them, I never had any issues. Customer service was always polite and professional. Heart of Texas AC was their contracted company for this claim and they came out right away.

I bought this house two years ago and I'm finding a lot of slipshod fixes that were done prior to my purchase. What was previously done was they threw some putty on the crack of an elbow of the drain line. As soon as the young technician added water into the drain line, it just started shooting up. He fixed that. But I was told that American Home Shield doesn't cover secondary damage so I had to get restoration people out here to pull the pad of the carpet and put all the humidifiers in here to dry out the carpet. I then had to get somebody else in to reinstall the pad and the carpet. Other than that, I am very pleased that any time that I talked to or had to deal with Heart of Texas AC, they are fantastic. I am also very glad that I decided to have American Home Shield.

I filed a service request with American Home Shield and the contractor came out the next morning. He replaced the fan and the capacitor but it wasn't cooling off the way he wanted it to. So he went and did something else. I called and told him that the temperature was rising again. So he came back and replaced the part inside the unit in the house. He did an excellent job and it's been nice and cool in my house since the repair. I'm enjoying the hundred and semi degree weather 'cause I don't have to be in it.

We just purchased a house in March and we called American Home Shield to submit a claim for the hot water heater. They sent someone out and we paid the $75 for the service call. This was on a Thursday and the contractor said he was gonna try to order a hot water heater for us and get it in Friday or Saturday. He couldn’t do it so, we got a text message that they were coming on Monday. So, we thought that we were getting our hot water heater on Monday but we didn’t. AHS sent another company and they wanted another $75. We were not going to pay the second $75. Then, we were told that $440 was needed for modifications. I priced hot water heaters and I could get one for $400. So, I figured we would cash out with AHS and do it ourselves. However, it had to be someone licensed to do it, so either way, we were suckered and we paid the full price.

We're still out our $440 where we were not supposed to. We have a one-year warranty on the home and we were nine days without our hot water. It was kinda like we were stiff armed into going with AHS. Otherwise, we would still probably be with our hot water. When the lady from AHS called me, I was complaining about the $440. She was complaining about the company and she said that they are the ones that I should go after. But it was AHS that sent them to me. We’re very dissatisfied and I would not ever renew my contract with them.

I called AHS to have my outside AC unit fixed and the representative that I spoke with to get the thing started was fine. But the representatives after that were no good. American Home Shield supposedly got a bill for two items to go into the repair, but the repair service people did not install them. Instead, they installed a new unit and since American Home Shield only paid for the two items, I ended up paying for the brand new unit. I also ended up paying for the whole condenser, installation, and the whole works. Now somebody is in trouble as far as I’m concerned.

The contractor told American Home Shield to buy these two pieces then they told me to spend $2000 to buy a whole unit. So, I don't know what happened, but I wasn’t given an option. The other thing is, the original unit that was being replaced was a heat pump and I wasn’t asked whether I wanted a new heat pump or whether I wanted some other garbage because now, since they installed this here, I’m gonna pay extra because they didn't install a heat pump. So, my cost for heating the house is gonna be outside the limit. Also, I couldn't get the warranty from the vendor that installed the thing. Neither can I get a detailed bill, so I don't know what I paid for. With this, I'm not ready to recommend AHS to anybody because I have no idea who’s doing what. It looks like they're paying for some garbage and making sure that I pay for the whole thing.

We’ve had multiple calls with American Home Shield for the refrigerator in the last seven months. We first called for the freezer. Everything was defrosting in the freezer. And then the temperature started going up in the refrigerator as well. It wasn’t keeping things cold. The contractor put a part in and they thought that was gonna fix it, but it didn’t. So we called back, and the guy came and said he connected some wires incorrectly. So he fixed the wires and he said that should do it, but it didn’t. American Home Shield sent somebody else out and they put Freon in it. But that didn't take care of it either. So we had another call, and then they replaced another part. We thought it was okay, but we kept an eye on it and put a thermometer in it.

Last week, my parents visited and they put some water in the refrigerator. They put some water bottles in, and they used to freeze overnight. But it was completely liquid in the morning. So it is still an ongoing issue. At one point, they thought it was a different issue. But some time had gone by and we were hoping that we wouldn't have to keep paying the co-pay for it. It would be nice if we wound up having to do a replacement, and we got refunded the co-pay, so we could at least pay it on the appliance already. At this point, my husband and I have looked into other warranties, so we are looking to possibly switch.

During this claim, my husband called American Home Shield and asked them not to send anybody from Greenway, because they don’t seem to be able to take care of the problem. We always have to call and get somebody else to come out. We’ve never been happy when Greenway has come out. But the other people that came out seemed to be able to take care of this situation. They’ve always been nice and helpful.

We’ve also had our washing machine serviced and our air-conditioning recently. I was a little surprised with the air-conditioning. When the guy came out, we had paid the service call. But he had to put Freon on the air-conditioner, and we had to pay about $400 out of pocket. It seems to be working okay, but that was a very large expense that we weren’t expecting.

The first time the contractor came, the diagnosis was the valve of the shower, but they said that’s not the problem. I don’t think the guy was genuinely professional on his diagnosis. I thought tried to cover up the first time they did because six months ago, the same issue happened and they came in. They said they changed the valve, but still, six months later, it was leaking. I was not happy with their approach to the problem-solving. This second time they came in, they tried to externalize the issue and it was the wrong diagnosis.

The main problem is the pressure regulator outside the house. A second opinion came in and they disputed that. The water pressure to the house is like less than 80 psi and they said there's nothing wrong with the pressure. So I scheduled to AHS again, but this time, the contractor said they came in. They tried to knock and they said nobody was in the house so I need to reschedule but I didn't get any call. My experience was not great.

Up until now I have had fair to good experiences dealing with AHS and their contractors. Everything from good fast service with explanations of what went wrong or my a part had to be replaced (+) to calling at Friday noon (I didn't plan the breakdown) before a 3 day weekend and getting told I would be contacted within the next 24 business hours and it took them til Thursday to reply. But today really pissed me off. I have a stopped up laundry sink. The contractor arrived early (+) within the given time frame and got right to it. After several tries to snake the drain thru the sink he explained to me that the blockage was in the down pipe that the sink drain fed into. And that this pipe would have to be snaked from the roof. But due to liability issues his firm did not do roof work. He said he would write his report and AHS would probably send someone else. I thanked him & he left.

I called AHS to request that they not waste my time with a firm that could not get the job done. If he had to order a part or get a special tool or machine I could see that, but not finishing the job because of liability issues on the roof should have been cause not to send that firm in the 1st place. After explaining this to the 1st operator, getting transferred and explaining everything again I get told none of their contractors do roof work! I ask, "Then what happens now? Do you give me credit/voucher and I find my on own firm to finish the job or do you give me a refund or what?" She (operator) said they did not give vouchers and the service fee was non-refundable. I said "Gee, thanks for nothing" and hung up. Luckily (or not) today was my day off so I'm "only" out the $75. So now it's off to the laundromat and try to figure my next move. I'd only give 1/2 a star if I could!

ALL phone interactions have been EXTREMELY difficult due to language barrier issues. ALL phone interactions have been lengthier than they should have been due to the aforementioned language barrier issues.

If you ask the most rudimentary of questions, they MIGHT be able to answer them (with time and off-line assistance). If you ask detailed questions, forget about it, it's not happening. I understand the logic behind and some of the reasons for outsourcing labor, but it also comes at a potential negative impact/cost. Outsourcing will be 'value added' from an overhead perspective, for sure. But if a negative correlation b/n outsourcing and customer satisfaction can be determined, is that value added really worth it? Thanks for listening, JSB [soon-to-be Former Customer].

The people at American Home Shield gives really good care. Usually, I'm able to have a technician within the same week as when I made the request. We recently made a claim for the Maytag washing machine that we have, and ProServ came out, took a look at it and said there was nothing that could be done to repair it. With the warranty repair, they went ahead and gave us a selection of different types of washing machines we could choose to replace it. We were very happy with the selection that they chose as the primary one ‘cause it had all the main types of things that we would want to replace with, including some of them being upgrades. They arranged in about two business days with their delivery company, and they were able to drop it in within 15 minutes of when they arrived.

Submitting claims at American Home Shield is usually quick. The only time we’ve ever had an issue was when it came to a dryer or washing machine. The Sears technicians that they had first sent over wanted to charge us directly for the call instead of going through the American Home Shield business, which was surprising. But ProServ was really good. The technician liked to communicate and text, so instead of having to just wait at home, I could get a call, take off from work and be able to meet him there instead of having a very long window.

I got an email that American Home Shield offered an inspection on the cooling system for $75 and that’s something I’d like to have done. They hadn’t ever offered it before that I knew of, and I thought it was a wonderful idea. So, I had them come out and do it. The representative that I dealt with was very courteous, on time, and thorough. I’ve never had any bad experience with American Home Shield, and I would recommend them to anybody else that was looking for a home warranty.

The air conditioner was leaking in the basement, and AHS had it fixed. I went through the website, and I didn't have any problems. And then I was told about how long to expect the contractors. It took longer than expected. But they came when they said they would come. It was about eight days from when I submitted the claim before they were able to make it out because that was the first available appointment time. The contractor was professional and did a good job.

The water heater is leaking water. I was told that it was not up to code. The contractor was saying that we would have to run it through American Home Shield and see what they cover and what needs to be done. But AHS doesn't cover things and we're gonna be out of $500 if we go through them. What they're charging is ridiculous. They’re also probably charging more than if I go through a regular person and even though we can get the parts cheaper, it has to go through them. The water heater has to be repaired eventually and more likely, AHS will replace it. But I can still get it all cheaper by going through a different route. The other thing that I didn't like was with my refrigerator claim. My refrigerator costs $2,000 more than what they've given me. I was really shocked. I had a choice between black or white and that was it. Now, I’m really looking for somebody else.

I was having a lot of heat upstairs and I couldn't figure out why it was so hot up there. The first time, it was just a little warm. Then it got unbearable so I realized that there was a problem with the fan. I had been calling American Home Shield about it and they kept sending this company called Greenway. I had the worst experience with that. Greenway shafted me over and over. If it looked like it was something that was gonna take some work or something to fix, they said that my warranty didn't cover it. Then, I'm out of $75 which is my day's pay, and nothing was done. And they're the only company. It seems like they're getting all the business and American Home Shield doesn't have anybody else to service this area.

I kept telling American Home Shield if they could have somebody at least show me where the on and off switch is when the contractor comes out. They'd come out and say it's a different part. They nickel and dimed me a couple of times. When the original guy came, he told me that it wasn't a part of my air conditioning unit call so I needed to put in another call for somebody to come out.

When I call the 800 number, they charge me whatever the copay is. They take down what's going on to the best of my knowledge of what I can tell them. I try not to go to the website because I'd rather talk to them and find out what's going on so that I will know what to expect. My hours are so erratic when it comes to being available. I have to always have somebody come in the later evening if they're gonna come by.

Eventually, this last time, come to find out, the other ceiling fan had also went out so that was the reason that Beacon Hill Electric had to come. The electrician came at the end of my day. He was a little bit late. He didn't do the downstairs plug I got a shortage in, but he did do the ceiling fans. It was like he was doing the work, but it was obvious it was a time issue. The first time, he was just like, "It's at the end of the day, I won't have time. And by the time I get the part and everything, it'll be too late." I ended up having to take another day off for him to come and do it so that kinda got under my skin a little bit.

But for the most part, once he got here and did the work, he was real good and fast. He kept his appointment. I didn't have to call and remind him. He didn't call and give me a confirmation, but he was here when he was supposed to. He told me he'd be back, and he came back. So, that means something to me when people keep their word. He was real informative. He explained to me that the motor had went bad. He did give me some insight and showed me where there was a crack on the insulation around the edge. He was showing me a picture. He said that I may wanna fill that in or either have somebody come out.

Beacon Hill Electric has been excellent but American Home Shield needs to do better. They should pull away from Greenway. I'm still thinking about throwing some rocks. I'm pissed. I coulda went and bought the pipe and put it in myself. It's a 24-dollar piece and they said American Home Shield didn't cover it but then took $75 out of me. I was gonna cancel my warranty just because of them.

Everything's fine with American Home Shield. They're always pretty prompt at getting back to us and letting us know what company will be coming out. Depending on how much coverage you want from American Home Shield, they take care of it. They're very good when you call or go online to contact them. As long as you've got your customer number, they care of you. So far, the claims have mainly been for AC because this house is older and has a couple of units. We've replaced one already and we've got two more. When they start acting up, then we have to call and get someone to come out and check them.

As for the contractors, everyone's fine. The one fellow that has come out most often from American Comfort Heating & Cooling has been a fellow named Charlie, and he's been great. He's always prompt and friendly. He checks whatever it is we need, lets us know what's going on, and gives us the recommendation. For 1 issue, we had to have a thermostat replaced 'cause it quit working all-together. We had them out here today for a project that we had contracted with them about 2 weeks ago to put an additional register and ducting in one of our bedrooms to help the cooling in that room. The fellow that came out today, David, was a very nice gentleman. He was in and out within an hour and took care of everything that we needed.

Normally, we call American Home Shield to submit our claims. Often, we don’t really know if what we’re calling about would be covered or not. And so it’s nice to talk to a person, because usually, also, we don’t wanna wait a long time. We’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time, and back when we started, we've filed claims mostly by phone. And then they got the computer system set up where you could type in what the problem is. But since I don’t understand a lot of these things, I always like to talk to somebody.

We recently had a plumbing claim for our two bathrooms. It was the toilet from one and a sink on the other one. And they were on the same sewer line. So the contractor accessed it from the outside wall and put a thing through. He went a certain distance, and he could tell he had found a clog or something, and it went through that. And then it went further and he got it all, and it’s been great! The contractor was very nice when he got here. My husband was here and they spent the time together. He was very professional and he had nice clothes on. I put their company in my phone. If we wanted to change our faucets and do things that I know aren’t covered by American Home Shield, we would use them. We were that impressed. Since the repair, things are working wonderfully! Now, I can use the toilet of the master bathroom instead of going to the other side of the house to use the powder room. So it’s a lot nicer! I'm very satisfied.

Submitting claims through American Home Shield is easy. You can do it online or call them. And because it was our well pump, which brought all the water into our house, I had gone with the online. It said it would take up to 72 hours, which was not okay. And so, I called them and asked if there was any way to put a rush on the claim because our whole house was out of water. They called right away.

By the next morning, we had a call from the Perry’s guy. So, it was overnight the next night and they came that next afternoon. But they rushed it because I called instead of just putting it online. I've been with AHS for four years and everyone that comes out has been very nice. It’s been a very positive experience. I’ve heard horror stories about other home warranty products and even AHS, and I haven’t had any issues at all. I’ve been very pleased.

We noticed from the drain pipe of the the air conditioning unit inside the home that it was not draining fluid. We also noticed that the brand new furnace was getting water in it. Water was coming from the fact that LA Contractors who had put in our furnace in February through American Home Shield improperly installed it. When they put the furnace in, they did not level the cooling coil when they had to do the modification from the old furnace to the new furnace. Because of that, it put water in the furnace. It also caused the air-conditioning not to function properly.

We submitted it as an air-conditioning issue because it really was. The rep said that we would hear something the next day. It was 90-some degrees here in Cincinnati and it was a total nightmare because we had to continuously call back and try to get people over to get things rectified. We had a major, major problem. I am a CEO of a company, and I did not have the time to stand on this claim. I was more than frustrated to be without air for over 10 days. I’m asthmatic and I’m raising a five-year-old grandson who is also severely asthmatic.

There is only 1 technician that American Home Shield has through LA Contractors that does home warranties. You’re at his mercy when he can get to you. That’s the first problem. We’ve had problems with him when he installed our furnace and we did not want him back. He came back the next day and was pretty sure that it was not something he had done. It just so happened that I couldn’t turn the air on to show him what it was doing. When he came there, it would take hours for the air conditioning unit to actually cool enough for him to see the issue. So he said, “Well, run it, and after American Home Shield sends someone there to put air-conditioning, get back and let us know.”

AirMax came out and that young man ran like a chicken with his head cut off. Our air conditioning unit is an aged unit. We told them that when we called it in. The young man said that he couldn’t work on it because it didn’t have the safety features that he required. His boss told him that he could do it, but he decided that he wasn’t gonna do it so he ran. This went to hell in a handbasket and came back and went through again.

When Fast Response came out, the young man was excellent. He went inside my furnace to try to figure out what the problem was. He took pictures and sent me those pictures to my phone. He explained everything to me. When LA Contractors came back out, they tried to dispute that the air-conditioning had an issue and that they had improperly installed the unit. So I pulled up my trusty cellphone and pulled up the pictures that the young man from Fast Response gave me and showed them. When they went in and measured, it was off by some centimeters, but it made a big difference in the air conditioner. They had to come back and say, “We’re sorry. It is off.” But they came upstairs before they did and said, “We hate this big-time companies right there, ‘cause they don’t know what they’re doing. We didn’t improperly install this unit.” When they had to come back up and say that they did, I was so grateful to have those pictures. So Fast Response, in my book, did their job above and beyond.

If the process itself was smooth, American Home Shield would be an excellent tool to have as a home owner but what we have to go through to even achieve a level of satisfaction is unbelievably hard. I have mixed feelings and I’m really am leaning towards cancelling our home warranty. Livid is not even a word that would describe the level of disgust that I have with American Home Shield.

I was on the phone a long time trying to get answers, and was put on hold for a longer period of time than actual conversation with the representative. Paid AHS $75 to have a service technician diagnose the problem. He was here on 6/6/19 and recommended the compressor -- manufactured in 2005 -- be replaced. Said he would talk with AHS and be back in touch. Rec'd an e-mail today (6/13) from AHS that a new service contractor has been assigned to us.

When I called to ask if this second contractor was going to install a new compressor, I was told this second contractor would first need to diagnose the problem. As if the first service call by an AHS contractor hadn't occurred. This doesn't feel like service to me, it feels like delay, delay, delay so AHS doesn't have to perform under the warranty. It's a 2005 compressor and stopped work. So, it's obviously at its end of life and should be replaced. We have a warranty. What's the point of a warranty if it doesn't cover issues this one? Oh, and I am regularly receiving e-mails from AHS that it's time to renew our warranty.

I have the combo plan where I pay $75 per technician visit. A/C was not working when I turned it on this season. Called AHS and they sent out CWS Mechanical from Commerce, GA. I paid AHS $75. When the company came, there were two people. (Apparently, one to divert attention and one to act like he was doing something. But I was too smart for that.) 1st thing, CWS MECHANICAL asked me to pay them $1300 for a line set and freon. After hooking something to my less than 5-year-old unit, they said it had zero freon. Funny, it worked the 3 previous seasons just fine. They said it had a slow leak. If they were no refrigerant (not Freon, but 410A Puron), how could they determine a slow leak?? Then they said they knew it was the line set, but they did not have the proper tools to test the lineset.

However, they gave me an invoice that read $480 for freon and $650 for line set (the line set they could not properly check). So, I got charged $75 for someone to come out but they could not check my system because they did not have the appropriate tools. They said they filled the system with nitrogen and not to turn it on because of that. I immediately called the AHS warranty company to inform them they were asking for money. During their visit, they were able to completely view what is covered and what is not covered. Funny, those two items are not covered. They said they would come back at the end of this week to check the pressure and lineset because they had another unit to install in my area. They said I would not be charged for them to return.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, the next day, the American Home Shield company called me and left a recorded message that the CWS people needed "access" to check the lineset and that would be another $200. What they did not know was that I called a reputable A/C person in the community that I knew would be honest (even though he is on the pricey side). The visit was $85. When he came out, he checked everything and said Goodman was notorious for coils going out and said it had to be the coil, which is under warranty. I showed him the paperwork and he said the price they are charging for refrigerant (Puron, not Freon) was way high and mind you, this is coming from a high-price HVAC company. I was floored. I informed him of all that I had been told and he flat out said both companies were trying to scam me for money.

He is replacing the coil under warranty and charging me $200 less for the refrigerant. Also, he noted while he was here that I had holes in the venting that causes carbon monoxide to come into my home. The other warranty-based people did not even mention that. The part was so inexpensive that there would not have been any reason not to inform of this (other than they were both scamming me). I will be calling my bank to reverse the charge and I plan to be cancelling this warranty and reporting these people to the Better Business Bureau. I plan to sue the CWS Mechanical in court for fraud. I will also take other measures to report the licensing of these people. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE AMERICAN HOME SHIELD OR CWS MECHANICAL (COMMERCE).

Plus, the only way that American Home Shield will cover it is if we had that checked. When we have a claim, we go online and put in what we need, and then they have somebody call and schedule a time. And then the contractor comes out and do whatever it is they have to do then charge us the fee, which is $75 now.

When we had United Air Temp come out one time, the guy forgot to plug something back in for air conditioning, so our it wasn’t working. And one time, when the technician came out for the winter check, he didn’t screw the thing that spins all the way in and it came loose and it sounded like my house was gonna explode because it was going circles and it was banging against the sides. So they came out and actually caused more damage than fixing things. There was also a time when the guy was very rude about whatever was going on with my washing machine. And I haven't had any water back-ups since then. My whole basement would have flooded if I didn't get it done. It was a great experience. I'll always recommend American Home Shield. I found it very valuable.

There was a leak in one of the gasket in the tank of one of the toilet. I filed the claim online and American Home Shield text messaged me that BB Lewis Plumbing would contact me 24 hours. The guy scheduled an appointment and he called me. He came, explained things and he made the gasket sealed tightly so that it wouldn't leak. Before he left, he told me that if there would be any issue, call him back and he'd come back if need be. It was fixed and we had a great experience.

I had a bad experience about one sink claim which I never received any money for. It has been pending for over six months and I sent my bill to AHS. I called them three or four times and every time they tell me that somebody will get back to me and I got really frustrated. If they'll take care of that, it would be highly appreciated. That is a black mark on the company. Other than that, AHS has been good so I kept up with them. I am very happy with their service.

When we call American Home Shield to file a claim, it’s impossible to get them, and when we get them, the people are generally abrupt. I asked in certain instances to use vendors that we've used before and they didn't do it. When you call back after you find out that they didn't book it the right way, it's a pain in the butt. They would tell us that we would hear from the contractors within a certain amount of time but I've never had a problem with the contractors getting back to us because as soon as AHS gives me the information on who it is, I call them. Most of the people who came out were friendly but they were all similarly mentally situated that you can't do much because AHS wouldn't approve stuff and they're always chasing parts.

We had a toilet downstairs that was plugged up and recently, we had the timer in the pool replaced by American Home Shield. We had the water heater fixed too because there was a leak in one of the feed pipes. A copper pipe perforated and the contractor came out when they said they would be here and fixed it. Everything is a battle with American Home Shield and nothing has been easy over the years. It came when we bought the house and we've been with them for a decade. When something goes wrong, you gotta call American Home Shield and it's like going to the dentist. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I call my claims in with American Home Shield and that's pretty easy. When I had an AC issue, somebody was supposed to come but no one did. He never did what he said he would do. We were without services for a little over a month. But the second person that was scheduled to come was very nice. He was the best service person that was ever out to our home.

American Home Shield should send somebody out in a timely fashion because it took a little bit for this last person to come for the service call. Other than that, they always have been knowledgeable, polite, and professional. Through the years, we’ve mostly been really satisfied with all of our contractors. But the one that was out of St. Louis was a little bit slow about coming out. Also, the contractors that we had seemed to just want to keep putting a Band-Aid on the problem because every so often, they would come out.

We had American Home Shield years ago. We got them when we purchased the house, and the previous owner had purchased it for a year as a security blanket for us. We had such a good experience with them back then. We kept them for six years until we moved to a condo and didn't really need a policy anymore. And we just bought a new place last year, and I thought, “Oh, I’ve had such a good experience with them. I’ll go with them again,” and I regret it. The very first claim that I filed five months after we moved in was on my air conditioner. And it took three attempts and they could not work on the system because we’re in a condo and it’s a system they didn't know what to do with.

They charged me the $75 three times. I had to fight about that for six months, and then I still got a bill. They told me they were gonna send it to collections, and I didn't even owe the money to begin with. And then after the three attempts and they still couldn't find any, they let me go out on my own. I paid for it upfront, which I agreed to do, but then it took me almost four months to get my money back.

I just filed a service request two weeks ago, and they sent it to a vendor. The vendor said they don’t work on my type of system again, and they just dropped it. They didn't even attempt to find another one. And so, when I called to follow up on why no one has called me a week later, they said it wasn’t a rush. It’s just not cooling. It could be up to 48 hours. I was not sweating, so I’d just be patient. But after a week and a half, no one called me, so I called. And they said the request was cancelled. When I asked who did, they said it was the vendor because they don’t work on our system. I then said, “A vendor can’t cancel my service request. I’m your client. If they don’t work on it, then it’s up to you to find someone else.”

I tried to go above the customer service person to say, “I went through this last year. Why can’t we just have a note on my file that says that this gentleman, this Metro-Mechanical that was able work on that, why can’t that be the preferred vendor? Because they agreed that they would work with American Home Shield on it." But I was told that that’s not how they do it. And so here I am, three weeks later, finally getting my air conditioner serviced. I haven't got any call saying they're on their way yet. I will not be renewing with American Shield. It expires next month, and I really hate that because I’m on a very fixed income, and so it’s nice to have the security blanket. But I’ll be finding another policy to purchase.

When I made a claim with American Home Shield, I understood the reason I needed to call versus doing it online. We had a company out in the past that was unable to perform the services so consequently, I wanted the company that I would get - through American Home Shield - that I had used in the past. There was no problem in connecting us with the air conditioning company I was happy with in the past. The technician was excellent. Someone had to come back out for a final resolution and that took three days. We almost have a resolution in the sense that we are waiting for the inside unit to be ordered then installed. We are not quite there yet, but we are moving on.

I would recommend American Home Shield with a caveat. Their main company is in Columbia, South Carolina and they do work in Charleston, South Carolina with a Charleston telephone number. They never answer the Charleston telephone and on their recording, they don’t say that they are having problems with their phone system in Charleston. It took a day or so to figure out I needed to call Columbia. When I did, somebody answered the phone and I got a resolution. I was able to talk to someone named Laura who was as fantastic.

American Home Shield could do a much better job when they are having evidently long term phone problems in Charleston. I was kinda left with leaving a message and no one called back because they said the phone system was not working correctly. There was frustration there that probably wouldn’t need to be if they would have gone the extra step of letting their customers know. If the phone system doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. You get problems, you gotta try to fix it. But at least on your recording, you could make your customers aware about calling the Columbia number rather than just floundering around. Otherwise, everything else is fine.

The first time that Randall & Sons Plumbing came, there was a pump that wasn’t pumping liquid out, and they fixed that. That was probably 3 months ago and this last month, end of May, we tried to have them come out for some blockage between the pump going out to the septic tank. We had septic coming out in the yard. Water was blocking it so instead of the water filtering out to where the water and liquid goes out to, it was coming up the top of the septic tank itself. They said that they didn’t really deal with that type of issue so they didn’t come out. They didn’t think American Home Shield would cover septic issues which I was surprised at. I thought that would be covered. It was in the warranty. I just wish a little more clarification on septic issues and what the warranty covers or doesn’t cover so it wouldn’t lead to confusion in the beginning when calling in.

Randall & Sons was really good when they came out the first time but they were a little frustrated because they couldn’t get through to the office. It kinda slowed down getting help the first time because the technician was waiting down the phone for 45 minutes and couldn’t get someone to approve. Also, the problem I have sometimes is understanding some of the people that pick up the phone. I don’t know if there’s an accent or language barrier sometimes when I called in. I’ve been put on hold a couple times, too. But I’ve been glad to have American Home Shield. It has been a good decision to have that included in our home purchase. Submitting claims has been pretty good overall. The garage door opener was taken care of last year.

I had two completely separate issues that Grade A Plumbing worked on. The first one was a valve under the sink, and someone else had had a home warranty repair on it nine months ago, and apparently, it wasn’t repaired correctly. So, Grade A came out, diagnosed it, ordered the part, came back, and did a good job. They were on time, so I'm very happy. The second issue that they were also called out on four days later was a hot water heater issue. And they were late, but they came out, they diagnosed it, fixed it, and then, like a few hours later, all of a sudden, we had no hot water again. So, they came back out and fixed it. But I was a little disappointed in that my poor tenants had no hot water for six days. So, it felt to me like we should’ve been on the priority list on the callback out since they had come out and not fixed the problem the first time. But we had to wait another three days. They did a good job. But the timeframe was a little frustrating.

Most of my claims with American Home Shield are done online. On the hot water thing, I called them up and said, “Hey, isn’t there any way we can get them back out here right away? ‘Cause I’ve already waited four days to get it done first.” And they said there was nothing they could do. If they called out another company, it would take that much longer. Still, they’re very pleasant. I’ve had three houses that are under the plan, and a repair takes longer, especially on things like I had another claim where I had no refrigerator. One of my other tenant’s refrigerator was broken, and it took forever to get it fixed. And I ended up having to buy a refrigerator for them to use while we were waiting to get it fixed, which doesn't even make sense. So, the timing is a little bit too long. But otherwise, they do a good job.

The only part was waiting for the part to get in which took a couple of days. But luckily enough, it was cooler here. We didn’t need the air so it didn’t mess anything up. When the part came in, the technician was at my house installing it and everything went smoothly. Everything works fine now. We've been with American Home Shield going on 5 years now ever since we’ve owned the house. AHS then stated they could not repair because the wiring was outside the foundation. I hired an electrician to repair. He identified the problem was not in the lights on the outside of the house, but was wiring inside the house. The electrician AHS sent created additional problems I had to pay to correct and the wiring that was the problem is covered under the contract, since it is not outside of the foundation. I have been with American Home Shield since 2012. Two service calls in the last year and they both were terrible. Today a contractor no-calls/no-shows after I took an entire day off from work to be here to have my AC repaired. Called them twice and left messages and got no response. Finally AHS was able to reach them and they said they had a schedule change due to an employee issue. How about call your customers and let them know? It's now costing me money to keep AHS because I don't get compensated for my time off from work and it wasted here.

In this day and age there is absolutely no excuse for not contacting your customers when you are delayed by text, by call, or by email. I had a service window of 8-5 which now means I could have went to work and still been home if they were going to be late and guess what it is now 5:30 and they still have not showed up. When we asked to speak to a AHS manager or supervisor no one was available and the person tried to avoid escalating the call but my husband was persistent. Totally unacceptable AHS and they offered me nothing as as consideration after they have received 7 years of on-time payments. And guess what? I get to sit and probably take another day off from work to get this repair done.

I'm beyond livid at the poor quality contracts that are being awarded to these lowest priced technically acceptable vendors. Customer service matters big time and you can not continue to take people's money like crooks and offer them nothing in return. While I am sure some people have had great experiences with AHS we have been the unlucky ones to receive the poorest of service. Just knowing that the technician is going to finally come out only to tell me my AC is broken, and then have to probably order parts, and then get approval from AHS before they can perform the work, and oh by the way temps are already approaching the 100s makes my blood boil. And there is no after hour or emergency service because we have been like this since Saturday and it's now Wednesday.

This CANNOT be an acceptable practice of this company. And I would hope if you are considering AHS you would think again as I am doing right now. They only show the 5-star reviews on their website but I am sure there are others like myself who have seen nothing but money thrown down the drain for this service. Why can't AHS pick competent vendors that can provide decent customer service? This service is not cheap and because of that it should work when I need it to.

American Home Shield sent Sears in for an appliance issue that we had, and they did a fantastic job. And there was so much needed that they just totaled it out, and I took the payoff and paid a little more and got a refrigerator. Submitting claims through American Home Shield has been easy. It’s kinda hard on some of the stuff because then you gotta pay everything upfront. Plumbing-wise, I do not like their selections. I really don't care for them. They only have one plumber that comes out, and he comes from Wichita, which is two hours away. They do have some people that work for them that are from Midwest City. Actually, they're supposed to be coming out today because this will be the third visit.

I’ve also had the problem of American Home Shield charging me service calls each time. I’ve had to call them and tell them, “No, this is from the same one. Don’t charge me another service call.” Also, their hold time is the worst that could be. They have a terrible hold time to get a hold of anybody. And then, a lot of them are out of the country, and I do not want to talk to people out of the country. My mom was scammed. Homeland security thinks it might have been somebody who’s working for a legitimate company by the day, and sending people over and scamming. So, I refuse to talk to anybody out of the country. And I think that’s rude if they do that. If they don't have the money to pay people here, then take some cuts in their salary. Moreover, I had one problem that they never fixed. It was on some ductwork, and it was a joke. And I finally just gave up on it.

The guy told me what amount it held, but I would not know the difference. I paid it, and the air conditioner worked. We didn't turn it back on until this year. So, the first day I turned it on was Memorial Day weekend, and it did nothing. I waited and checked the fuses to make sure nothing triggered. I turned it on again and it came on, but nothing was blowing.

I called American Home Shield back, and they sent somebody out here. Holder's Air came out on a weekend and I was suprised they came. He said my system didn't hold as much air as the Fast Response tech claimed it did, and he told me I got ripped off. So, he checked the system and said that there was a leak because there was approximately 2 pounds of Freon in there. But I just paid a thousand and something dollars for some last year, and I know that’s not normal. He said he couldn't find where the leak was coming from, that that’s all the Freon that I had in there, and he didn't know what was going on. He said he couldn’t find it. It’s gonna have to be replaced. He had to send his diagnosis to American Home Shield.

From then until now, American Home Shield said they couldn't get a hold of Holder's. I also can't get ahold of them. I’ve left messages with Holder’s, but they haven't responded to the issue. So, I called back American Home Shield to tell them that. Now, they're saying they’ll send Fast Response back to my house, and they said it was expedited. I’ve called Fast Response they said it was not expedited. So, I called American Home Shield back and told them what Fast Response said and they said, “Nope.” I called Fast Response back, they said they still don’t have me as expedited and they may be able to get me in possibly tomorrow or the next day or Saturday, but they would let me know a day ahead.

I have emphysema, which is hard for me to breathe, and my grandson has asthma. My basement is already starting to suffer with the humidity because it’s not a walk-out basement. Last year, mold grew in my house when the air conditioner went out. I really don't trust Fast Response. They went to my rental property, and they said they repaired that and then they wanted $110 a pound for Freon. So, I told them to not put the Freon. I went to another company, and they said there was something that needed to be replaced, and then they'd replace that and put the Freon on there. They did all of that, and it cost me like 200 bucks versus 1,000 last year for this system, and who knows how much this year for it. So, I don’t know what Fast Response is really doing.

I’m not complaining about American Home Shield because they only have who they have contracted to do your work and to work in my area. It’s not been a very good experience at all. This is very frustrating. When I go home at night, I have a little window air conditioner that a friend allowed me to use. But it’s small, so it really only helps the living room, and we’re all gathered up in my living room.

As far as submitting claims, I’ve always called. But the conversation is a little rough when you speak to someone that doesn’t speak very, very good English. They speak English but not as smooth as you’re used to. But you work through that, and I understand that. They do what they're able to do, and they can only give me the contractor that American Home Shield have contracted to do what they did that I’m looking for. But I have not had any kinda luck with the contracted companies.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for my tenant's AC. Navigating their website was very easy and I got a response like I normally have with all the claims that I’ve put through them. Their contractor came and after they did the initial check, they said that it was frozen. Since they went back out on a Saturday to fix the AC, I haven't had any complaints from my tenant.

I put the oven on broiler and the element went out. It caught on fire. I had to hurry up and turn it off and throw salt in there. I called to file a claim and talked to an AHS representative. Then the contractor called within the same day. The guy who came out was very professional and friendly. He explained in detail what the issue was, but he told me that he didn’t have the element on his truck. He would have to order it and as soon as that part got in, he would bring it over and that was what he did. And It has been perfect since. I'm diabetic, so I depend on the broiler feature in my oven versus steak. So, I was very happy once I got it fixed. Overall, American Home Shield had been very professional and everybody that I needed to come out to my house came out. I had three separate incidents and our experience with AHS had been wonderful.

The online claims process of American Home Shield is painless. After I submitted the claim for my dishwasher, they contacted me the next business day and we scheduled another appointment for the contractor to come out at my convenience. The contractor was very polite and the first visit was really good. He diagnosed the problem, went outside, got on his phone, talked to another co-worker, came in and realized that he was incorrect. There was another part that needed to be ordered. He wrote it on his notes and left. When the part came in, he called me to reschedule the repair. The follow up was complete and everything had been working fine.

The two main things I called American Home Shield about have not been corrected, and one of them is never gonna get corrected because they say that they don’t do that. I submitted my claim online and when I didn't get a response, then I called. The representatives were nice but the plumbing people that they referred me to first, for the hot water heater, don’t do the Home Shield anymore. So I lost about three weeks there. The contractor was supposed to have ordered a part and then come back. Finally, I called back again to Home Shield and I told them what the contractor told me, that they don’t do Home Shield. I told Home Shield they had to send somebody else and that’s what they did.

They sent a different guy out and he said the water heater needs to be serviced. The water heater needs to be descaled, cleaned and flushed out every now and then. But that’s not part of the Home Shield deal so I still don’t have a working hot water heater. Honestly, this unit is broken but they're saying it's just a service thing. It can be fixed by doing this and this but they're not doing it. Also, it was never mentioned in the home inspection that anything was wrong with the gas tankless hot water heater.

I could’ve also had all this done if I’d known before my work date. But now, I’m working. So it never got done. It's just waiting and waiting. It took two visits and over three weeks of me waiting for the contractors to get there and do it. It’s a bad situation because I don’t know what to do. American Home Shield said they don’t cover the service and I thought that’s what I was buying with the home warranty – to cover things inside my house if something doesn’t work or breaks. I needed a plumber two months ago and I still don’t have a working hot water heater. There are two jets in my shower that still don’t work.

I was told that I need to find a plumber and I tried to get a plumber to come but I’ve had two different plumbers scheduled on two different dates and both times, they were no show and no call. The third plumber was also no show and no call. I've found that because I work Monday to Friday, no one wants to come in the weekend. I’m certainly not gonna take a day off work and sit there because I scheduled three different plumbers and each of them was a no-show. They didn't even call. I cannot afford to take off work.

Then as for the electrical claim, that went around and around. It’s about a fan and when the contractor came out, he was supposed to check the fans. I had also bought a light fixture and he was supposed to put it up. But he didn't put the light fixture up. He checked the fans and said the two fans needed a part so he had to order a part. I got a call three weeks after that, saying they got the part in. So I need to schedule but of course, they don’t come out on Saturday. The latest appointment is at 4:00 PM and we’re always at our job then. So that’s still waiting. I also ended up just paying a guy $20 to hang my light for me.

The issue that I filed a claim on with American Home Shield was handled okay by Discount Contractors. I was a little bit disappointed that I had to submit the second claim. I had an earlier claim where they replaced the garbage disposal. And in replacing the garbage disposal, they discovered that the kitchen sink was leaking, but they wouldn’t repair it. They had me call in a second claim while they were already here. They said that they thought it was an American Home Shield policy. All they had to do was replace one bolt, and that cost me an additional $75, so that was disappointing. If you’re here working on the sink and you’re replacing the garbage disposal and it’s leaking, it makes sense that the two would go together. I can understand if it was the bathroom sink, but they were under the sink replacing the disposal and even sent me pictures of it.

When I file my claims with American Home Shield, it’s a combination of both online and phone methods, and I have a property manager that also files them for me. For the most part, dealing with the representatives has been good. I hope AHS would give you an opportunity to get to a representative instead of having to listen to, “You can do this online. You can do this online.” They could give an immediate option to get the customer service, because sometimes the claims are complicated and you need to speak to someone to make sure that it’s entered correctly. And that’s really frustrating because it takes like 20 or 30 minutes hold time to get to speak to a human being.

We had several claims to AHS about the dishwasher. By the time AHS added all the deductibles I paid, I bought a new dishwasher. And then, when they sent someone out the last time, he was like, "This is irreparable and you need a new dishwasher." So, he let AHS know. And they hooked me up with a company to bring me a new dishwasher. Those people showed up and told me they couldn't put the dishwasher in because I needed to have an electrical outlet installed. Dishwashers are hardwired into the home. So, he just literally talked to me like I was a fool and left and just left the dishwasher in my living room.

I was never able to reach anybody at the company and when I called AHS, they said, "you didn't renew your warranty on time. So, have a good day." AHS said because I didn't renew that it just canceled everything out. That if I wanted to renew and pay, that they would be more than happy to continue talking with me. I said I'm not renewing because of how they treated me with this. I wanted a home warranty company that I feel like has my back and they want me to enjoy my home and all the appliances in my home. It had been such a fiasco to get any help all along when they should have replaced the dishwasher way back and stopped sending someone out.

I made my first couple of claims electronically, they let the repair person come out, then they tell me they fixed it. Then after the fourth visit, I talked to a person every time. I just begged them to please get me a new dishwasher. I've lived in the house for a year. And I've done six loads through the dishwasher in the year that I've lived here. It's really miserable. We have a big family. I will cook more if it's easier to do the dishes. And AHS was not helpful. They wanted me to pay that $75 every time, and somebody came out eight times.

But the contractors were always really friendly to me, that they weren't gonna suggest I'd get a new dishwasher, and they would always tell me, "If the repair is within reason." And I'm like, "it stopped being reasonable three visits ago." With the last time the guy came out, I wouldn't let AHS send the same company. I made them send someone from Sears. They sent a Sears appliance man, and he took one look at it and was like, "Oh my god, they don't even use the same materials to make dishwashers anymore. This dishwasher is so old, it's a dinosaur. Why didn't they get you a new one forever ago?" And I said the repair person always said they could fix it. He said, "I'm not even touching this. I'm not even gonna try to fix this thing." I just said thank you. And so, we got a new dishwasher, but it's just sitting in my living room, and it's not installed.

My AC went out recently and I called American Home Shield. They had an automated system so it automatically fed the data to the repair guys. Within an hour, they called me. The tech was a pretty straight shooter, which I appreciated. He didn't turn around and try to sell me a $15,000 system. But he did say, “Your particular system’s using a coolant that’s no longer made. So, you need to start planning for the future.” I had it serviced last year and the guy back then didn't tell me that. He just tried to sell me a $15,000 system. So, having a little bit more information was terrific. The recent tech suspected that a wire was burning out because one of the contacts was corroded. So, he directly wired it with the copper wire since the copper is less corrosive and should provide a better overall contact. It’s been three weeks that we’ve used the AC and we haven’t had an issue.

We have two air conditioning units - one for the upstairs, one for the down. The air conditioner upstairs wasn’t working. We called a repairman. It was before Three Brothers came. The repairman said that it was a plumbing problem, and that we’d have to call a plumber to get the line blown out. But he told us that he believed that the stoppage was in the U-joint underneath our bathroom sink. So, to save the $75, we took the U-joint off ourselves, cleaned it out, put it back on. The air conditioning worked for a couple of days, and then it quit again, at which point, we called American Home Shield. Because not only had that quit, but the same day, our downstairs unit also quit.

We couldn’t even stay in our house because it was so hot. So, then American Home Shield sent someone the next day. They said we had two separate problems. The upstairs one, the contractor said the water was still clogged in a different spot than the first guy had said. Instead of telling me to call a plumber, he just went and got an air compressor and took care of it himself, which would have been really nice if that had happened the first time with the other guy. It was really nice that he fixed it. And then the downstairs one, he said we had a Freon leak and all the Freon had come out.

So, American Home Shield paid for the repair and for part of the Freon. We had to pay like $700 for the rest of the Freon. I know that that costs a lot and American Home Shield doesn’t cover it. But that’s the whole reason we have homeowner’s insurance is because expenses like $700 for Freon is not really in our daily budget. So, that was a really big blow to us. So, there was some positives and negatives about the whole experience.

But overall, AHS always partners with friendly people. I’ve never had a grouchy or inept contractor. They always come out quickly, so that’s a good thing. The other problem we experienced was that when I went online to contact American Home Shield about both of my units being out, I just clicked AC, but I didn’t say how many units were out. But when the repairman arrived, he said he could only fix one unit because the work order had been placed for a single unit automatically by AHS. I had to rush around trying to call and get them to approve him to fix our other unit while he was still here. I didn’t have to pay another $75 for him to come back. So, it was kind of annoying that it was just assumed that I only had one broken. But it was taken care of, which was awesome.

Customer service is completely clueless. I keep speaking to people that have no idea what is going on and is not able to solve anything, I called the I don't know, I don't care attitude. They always put me on hold, I am spending at least 4 hours a day trying to get my problem solved, but nobody is really able to help. Everything started 2 month ago when I put my first claim, plumber found nothing, but he charged me for an uncovered item, which I paid out of my pocket. I kept losing water... I found a leak while I was replacing a shower faucet, I opened the tile from shower and found that the main valve system was leaking.

I called AHS again on 6/3/2019 and they sent a plumbing company as second opinion (not without demanding it, because remember this is clueless people that do not care and do not know what is going on). They said that the shower valve is leaking and they have to replace it (right...). They told me insurance will pay for that but, since the previous sealing was some type of plastic, they have to put a welding sealing. so they said that I will have to pay about $285 out of my pocket for something they called a modification which was replacing that sort of plastic seal for welding seal. I thought was too much money so I called AHS to see my options.

After speaking with customer service for about 5 hours on Thursday the 6th 2019, they said they can send me a check for the covered item (remember that I am spending hours with them and demanding because again this is clueless people that do not care and do not know what is going on) and I would cover any additional not covered item. I said fine. Today they called me saying that they are sorry but the payment was not approved because the repair was done already... I said, "what? What repair? Nobody has made any repair yet," after a long waiting then they said, "I am sorry. It was denied because the plumber could not make an opening to the wall and could not make a diagnostic." I said what?

I already removed the tiles before plumber came and he gave me an estimate already, they actually just told me to remove a couple more of tiles and to call them so they can start the work. This was on and on and on for hours and you know. They do not care do not know. It was like speaking to a wall, so that day I gave up. I called on Friday 6/14/2019 again (I just spent about 3 hours that day). Finally spoke to a representative that called the plumbing company to ask for the estimate of the work so they can send me a check and I am returning back to the same place again, and I will have to spend another 4 a day hours to speak to people that will transfer me to other people that do not know... do not care. This company is a joke.

UPDATE 6/11/2019: So today this company called me, and they made me an offer they said they can offer me $16.15 for all this work, so I said what?? Sixteen dollars? And fifteen cents?? The valve itself on Home Depot is about $120 and the plumber job? So they said: "you can call to your own plumber and pay to them but we can just cover up to $16.15." and the explanation this woman gave was, "We Negotiate to a great scale so that is why we can get those prices," I hang up and I called again and they just said, "this is just the information that we have." So they repeated the same. (This is crazy.)

She also said that she sees on the system that a supervisor will be in touch with me I guess is the person that read here my complain And she said, "You can talk to her if you want and explain the issue to her and MAYBE she can do anything about it..." Well I am still waiting that call and just FYI I already know this company is not worth it, is a joke and they do not know (clueless people) and do not care. But I want to know how far this goes. I just cannot believe business like this exist. I have been paying $50 a month and they were nice until I made this claim... That is called strategic stealing. I already spent on a plumbing company $450 today 6/11/2019 (and they want to give me 16.15! Geeezz). I already made the repair and I am just posting this so you can know.

I filed a claim online and had a phone call back and a plumber to my house same day to diagnose water heater. Plumber says it needs replaced and now I am on day 6 with nothing to show for it. My wife and I have been on the phone every day multiple times a day and all they say is it is under review and will try and expedite meanwhile I am running my family to other family members homes to take showers and do laundry. Possibly if the call center was in the United States and not the Philippines like they told us during one of our many phone calls communication would be better. It is a hot water heater not a doorbell for crying out loud. If this is expediting I sure hope my A/C doesn’t go out this summer.

So I asked for a home warranty and send me a guy out from a company who had no clue he was there servicing for a warranty claim and thought I was paying out of pocket and told me I had a large lack of refrigerant and suggested I add 5 pounds. I said find the problem and what’s causing it because this is under home warranty. Did a leak test and saw the coil was bad.

I later get authorization from AHS that we can replace the coil but the other work to do that would cost me $1150. Why the hell would I invest into a 23 year old system where R-22 will be phased out by the end of the year and hard to get? I had a one year contract and then was paying month to month so I am not sure how I am canceling “mid contract”. Now I am sitting on hold for 30 minutes while the person at the call center looks into it. I am done. I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone. They have put me on hold several times and did not resolve anything for me. I finally just hung up.

I have had American Home Sheild Home warranty for years and I have be happy with it for the most part. However, in May my nightmare began. With warm weather approaching I took advantage of an AC check up. The tech came out and informed me that there were several things that needed to be replaced/repaired. No worries right... He submitted the work order and American Home Shield sent another company out to do the repairs. Ok, odd but ok just get it repaired. New company refused to touch it due to it being a work order from a different company and leaves. I contacted your company, who has now shifted the call center abroad, and was talked in circles and I had to fight to talk to a supervisor. Supervisor talked in circles too.

After over an hour on the phone I got her to make clear statements about what was going to be done. She said she would call and update me the next day. No call came. I called the service line again. This time I talked to a representative who provided customer service and tried to contact the service tech. No luck. The service tech didn't answer but he left a message for them to call me. No call. A couple of days pass and I contacted your company via Twitter after waiting in the phone queue longer than my job allowed. (Yes, doing all this and also having a job) I was assigned a point of contact after my tweet. (Why did it take a tweet to do this?) The representative said they would contact the service and they would call me (sound familiar?) No call. I contacted them.

They continue to call the same service company who finally answers them and says they will call. No call. I informed the representative. The response "wow". So now it is a month and a half later no one has contacted me me about service and repair of my AC unit. I have paid two service fees and I have to constantly contact your company to get any information or produce any movement on my case. So what exactly is the service you provide? Next steps is reading through my contract with you to see if you are in violation. At bare minimum I am considering a formal complaint to the BBB.

I called in a claim and the rep I got was very nice, professional and interested in my problem. The person wrote it down and got onto it right away. I was supposed to expect the contractor Beach's Air Conditioning & Heating between noon and 4:00pm. The young man that came, Robert, was very pleasant, fast and thorough. He had my air conditioning working again in about 20 minutes. I was very happy. It was an excellent experience. It was very professional and my problem was resolved very quickly. After the repair, it was cool. Before that, it was hot.

I would recommend to my neighbors to get American Home Shield especially those of us that are older and many of my neighbors are. We don't have someone that can repair things. With American Home Shield, technicians come quickly, they do the job and the cost is much less than it would be if I had to call a regular service person. The original reason that I subscribed to American Home Shield was because I have a cousin who lives in Augusta, Georgia who has been a customer of theirs for 20 years and she's very satisfied.

I had a problem with my faucet in my bathroom for the tub, the hot water faucet and the shower. And American Home Shield sent a company that came out. The gentleman looked at it and said they gotta order a part and that they'd call me in a couple of days. The very next day, I got a call from that particular company and they quoted me a price of $700. They also said that we're not up to standard. We don't have any hot and cold shut off valve for the tub. They looked everywhere and couldn't find the part. The person also said, "We will contact American Home, and when they call you back, you give them hell because of the price. It's gonna be like $600 something." I told him that that didn't make sense to me. He called me back and said they were gonna contact AHS, call me, and someone from AHS would call me, too.

Then a really nice, young lady called. She went over the exact same thing that he said to me about the part and how much it was gonna cost. I told her I have a shut off valve. The gentleman took a picture of the panel, but he never opened the panel at the back of the tub. My son-in-law opened it up, and there's a shut off valve for the hot and cold water. I told her to have someone from the company contact me. The guy contacted me yesterday. But before he contacted me, my son-in-law who is a mechanic told me that the part was at Ace Hardware store. He found the part and he fixed it.

So, I paid $100 for someone to come out here and say they have to order a part and then call me back and quote me almost $700 to fix it when all he had to do was shop around and would have found it. I talked to American Home Shield. And when I said to them that I felt that I should have been credited my $100 back because someone came out here but didn't do anything. He took pictures and said they would order a part. When the parts come in, they would come back out and fix it. And the lady told me that the only thing they could do is give me $50 of my $100 back because he came out. That's besides the point. He didn't service me. He didn't repair my faucet. I paid for something and it wasn't taken care of.

I canceled my service with American Home Shield because I felt like they should have credited me back. And when she told me she could only give me $50 back, she didn't even say, "Let me let you talk to my supervisor so you can explain your situation. Ms. **, let us work something out." It was cut and dry. "We will give you $50 back, Miss **." And they didn't have a problem canceling my service. She asked if I still wanted to cancel my service and when I said I do, she said, "Okay. You will receive an email, and you receive something in the mail of your servicing account." They didn't go over backwards to save me. They let me go just like that and they only gave me $50.

Other than that, I have used them on several occasions before and had good experience. I had a plumber come out here before for the bathroom toilet. I had them come out here for something that's upstairs or in the basement. I have used them on numerous occasions. I call them for my air conditioner. I don't mind paying the $100 when the service is rendered. But with the latest claim, there was no service rendered, and I felt like they just took my money. It was a bad experience. And as a matter of fact, this is not the only time. They sent a company out here before for my furnace. And the young man said, "I'm gonna tell you what parts to go to Lowe's or Home Depot to pick up and you pay me. And I'll cancel the report, and you pay me."

He said that they couldn't install it because there was not 30 inches from the counter to the top of the microwave. It was like 3/8 inches short and apparently, for new construction, it has to be 30 inches. But since I had one already in there before, they should have installed it as was. And then American Home Shield had to send a second company out to install it the next week. I had the washing machine fixed also and AHS did a good job there. It's just that when calling in, they could answer quicker. I have to wait on the phone a long time before I can get to talk to someone. But I would recommend them.

I was with American Home Shield for quite a while and this year would be my ninth year. I've been with them consistently then I had a membership lapse for a month. But I'm moving to another company because AHS is not really well-informed with the contractors that they're hiring and sending out to people's homes. When it's a business, it doesn't have to be personal or a lot of the boxes do not need to be checked as far as different concerns or desires on what a person would want in a contractor. But when it comes to the home, there are some more important boxes that need to be checked and the company should be more informed than American Home Shield.

I get the feeling that not only are they not well-informed, but the contractors that they're hiring don't care either. So my highest concern with American Home Shield is getting below shady contractors. In fact, I did not answer my door one time because I was too scared. I am not comfortable to have certain people in my house and even on a personal level, I'm careful about that because we live in a different time now. Then on top of that, AHS increased their monthly fees. That's fine for new customers coming on to this home warranty opportunity but not for people that have been with them over five years. Also, they're like machines when we call them. It seems that they give us a pre-fabricated answer for the different questions that are asked. So, I'm really glad that I'm leaving them and I would not recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

They came out to fix it in the winter because our furnace was off and we didn't realize until we went to turn the AC on when it got warmer that the fan wouldn't shut off, so we had to call them back. They fixed it when they came, and there weren’t any problems. We also had a claim for our dryer. It started making all kinds of racket when you ran it. Some of the little secure things that hold the tumbler in place were broken and the contractor fixed it. We've had him out before and he’s a very nice man and he does a good job.

I submitted the claims online to American Home Shield. I'm internet savvy and some people aren't, so it depends on the person but I can do it, so it's good with me. We are in Arizona. So, if you don't have an AC, you're in a world of trouble, and we're in our 70's. So, I found it a little annoying that they took a long time to get somebody out here. Updated on 08/11/2019: I waited 3 weeks in a horrible heat wave in Virginia with a pregnant woman, toddler with asthma & a dog. The company they sent out ...after 3 weeks brought the wrong part after a lengthy authorization period with AHS and couldn’t tell me when the correct one would be in. They were horrible with customer service. After about 20 hours on the phone with them & many promises that someone would call me back... no one ever did. I could not wait another day. I called a local a/c company who I hired and they had the correct part installed in less than 1 day. Unfortunately it cost me $750 - money the warranty company should have paid. I have been a customer for 10 years & have not had but this 1 claim in those years. I more than paid for service with my $650 per year contract with them. These people stink & do not honor their contract warranty with them!!! Do not use!!!

Updated on 06/14/2019: I’m still awaiting a diagnostic for my a/c. The company they sent out has 48 hours to render a diagnosis... It has been over that time period & AHS says they can’t do anything without diagnosis... But they do not hold their contracted company’s accountable to the 48 hour window. I have no a/c!!! Awful!!! I have reported this issue via this website & of course no response from AHS!!! I don’t know how they get the rating they get!!!

Original review: They advertise prompt service... my tenant lost a/c on Friday 6/7/19...notified AHS and they said couldn’t contact anyone til Monday 6/10/19 & that company can’t come out til 6/13/19. So they are without a/c or even a diagnosis for almost a week. As a landlord I need to have prompt service. This is not that. I’m upset & my tenant is upset. All AHS DOES is say that’s all they can do. But make no mistake. They want their payments promptly.

I have been with AHS for a while, in fact, I just purchased an additional contract for a condo I am purchasing. I called AHS about the AC not cooling. They sent a technician from “Seabreez” to look at the unit. He was here 10 min and diagnosed the unit as needing a txv valve and 14 lbs of freon. I called AHS the following day because they still have not approved the repair. Please keep in mind it is over 100 degrees outside! The following day I called AHS again, and the csr told me nothing... a 5 yr old would have been more help. The next day I finally get a response. AHS will partially cover the repair. So it will be an additional $550 to the $100 service call fee. “Seabreez” finally contacted me the following day.

Now for a bigger issue. While all this playing around with AHS reps that are absolutely no help (they talk in circles, not really answering anything to put you off as long as possible). I called for a second opinion at my own expense. This AC contractor came out and looked at unit for over an hour. Looked at the “Seabreez” invoice, and said they do not see this at all. They said a small adjustment was made to a setting in the unit and it works fantastic! And they did not charge me a dime!!! The contractor just left saying be careful and check info on contractors before letting them do any repairs. So I guess in the long run, AHS putting me off for so long was a blessing. It caused me to call for another opinion and get the correct diagnosis. For free. The sad part is AHS has my $100 service call fee for doing nothing but sending a crappy contractor to my home. Read the reviews for “Seabreez”. They are awful.

I think it is pointless to have this home warranty coverage. They do not do much and at the end whatever you are getting back is already paid by your annual payment. And in many cases, you still have to hire a professional to fix the problem. Recently my house was sold and they charged me the cancellation fee. I explained lady on the phone that I am canceling because I do not own this house anymore, but she did not want to listen and said that this is their policy. Such a wrong policy. And this is after being with them for more than 5 years, insuring 3 houses. Every year. And as a real estate Broker, I will never recommend AHS to any of my clients and will spread the word around. This company does not appreciate long-time customers and professionals who bring them business.

I had an AC service. And the technicians sent out by AHS replaced the capacitor, and then it went back out that night. I called and tried to get them for two days, and I couldn't. My air was out for almost three weeks in May and it has been 99. And somewhere, it was dropped. I finally called American Home Shield back and they sent out someone else who fixed it. I was also having a tune up for one of the ACs. I've talked to AHS about it and they've scheduled it.

When my garage door went down, I called AHS and asked their rep if the spring was covered. I read the contract and that was a gray area because it said remote control which didn't make sense to me, and she said that it was. I asked her to double-check because my car was stuck in there and if it was not covered, then I wouldn't go through them. She confirmed that it was covered and she gave me someone who would do the repair. The guy came out and the minute he walked in, he said that the spring was not covered even though when I talked to whoever at American Home Shield, they told me that it was covered. She could've easily have told me that they couldn't handle it. Their rep on the phone should have better access to the contract and a clearer understanding to it.

The garage door has been good since the repair. I then looked at my bank statement and they charged me for $75 and I have no idea what that was for. I shouldn't have been charged a service charge for that claim. I wasn't happy with the AHS rep that I talked to about it. She couldn't give me a satisfactory answer on why I was charged. I had to pay the technician 400 on the spot, which was fine because my car was stuck there and I would've had to pay someone, but I wouldn't have to wait from Sunday to Wednesday when he showed up. Other than that, I've had American Home Shield forever and I am satisfied with them. With the overall claims process, I've always been happy because they've been really responsive.

We were having some leakage around the base of our toilet and we also were having an issue where when we flushed it, it would continue to run. We submitted a claim with AHS and got an automated system. Normally, we're told that we'll get a call maybe within 24 hours if it's a business day. But the last time I called it was over Memorial Day, so I didn't expect a call until the following workday. And in the morning, that Tuesday, right after Memorial Day we got a call from the plumber.

He was very professional, polite and competent. He definitely was very prompt in getting back to us when we submitted the claim. He made an appointment, came right on time and fixed what needed to be fixed very efficiently, and we've had no issues since then. The issue with the toilet is one less thing to worry about now. It's nice to cross it out our list and get it off our minds. And that way, also, we knew we were preventing a worse problem.

I called American Home Shield and set up my claim for plumbing. A few minutes later, I got the email from whatever company was gonna come out and do it. It was right before Memorial weekend. They called us at 7:00 something in the morning and I missed the call. I called them back and left a message. They called back and left a message. Then I called them back. So, we probably contacted them twice. After the second time I called them back, I then emailed them and texted the phone number they had texted who they were from. But I never got a response back. I waited for a week. I thought, “Okay. Maybe it’s because of Memorial Day.” But still no phone call.

I called American Home Shield and told them that I have noticed that they have billed me already for the $100 deductible, and their plumbing company never came out. And when I was talking to them, I was explaining that they actually owe me $100 from last September when they charged me $100 for a deductible after Sears insisted that I give them the $99.95 when they showed up because the agent from American Home Shield put it in as a cash call. It was supposed to be my dishwasher and refrigerator at that time, and they sent somebody who could only do the refrigerator part.

Recently, they were trying to charge me $100 for the plumber that never came. There is so much miscommunication in the company. They’re nice people when you’re speaking to them at first, but you can’t ever speak to a supervisor. They put you on long holds. The last time I held on was 45 minutes. We were doing this on chat and then they sent the transcript. So, I looked at the transcript. It was then sent to me so that I could make sure I had it in black and white because I find that with American Home Shield, nothing I say or the person says on the other line gets followed through. Nothing ever is followed through. With the plumbing issue that I had from September, I had over five hours logged in my paper where I’m calling in just a week trying to get the $100 refund that I never got.

Needless to say, I did get a plumber. And my husband said he came in, fixed the problem, and he was quick. He didn’t question like, “How did this happen?” He was pleasant. But in that transcript, I made sure I clarified the one that said the rep was going to waive the $100 fee because of all the hassle that I’ve had. I said, “So, what I understand you’re saying is that you’re gonna work on getting my refund from back in September. You’re gonna make sure they take off the $100 that they charged me for the plumber that never showed up. And you’re giving me the courtesy of not charging me the $100 for the plumber that will be coming out. Yes, got it.”

Now, I’ve been harassed with like a dozen phone calls. I’ve gotten two bills. And there are two emails about how I owe them $200. My account is overdue. They tried to charge my credit card that my monthly bill is charged to, but I purposely left a balance on there so that they wouldn’t be able to charge it. I eventually had to pay the bill. So, I know if they’re ever gonna charge it again, it’ll go through, and then trying to get that money back will just be a headache.

I told the latest woman I spoke to the quick synopsis of everything and I also told her I just needed to speak to a supervisor so I could get things resolved. But she said to tell her the story. She needed to know. So I told her the story and she came back and said, “I see that the person did come out in September.” I told her they did. But I also asked if I needed to break it down to her because it won’t really matter. She's not going to be able to do anything about it. She said she wanted to make sure it gets processed.

And the second time, I told her I was really tired of talking to her because she was not helping me. I’d been on the phone for 45 minutes. She put me on hold again and all of a sudden, the line was just dead. There was no music, but the phone was still telling me how many minutes I was on. After a few minutes it went dead and I called back. Another woman did the same thing. I see that I’m gonna have to figure out how to get a hold of someone that will make sure that AHS is accountable.

I won’t cancel my membership because I want my money back, and I don’t want them leaving the charges on me. When I'll close the account, they’ll say I still owed them 200. Then it goes on bad on my credit. And I’m not doing that. So now, I’ll be charged another $48 for another month of service that I won’t use because it has never been, I call, I set up a work order, the person shows up and something’s done, and it’s all good.

I’ve had this service for two years. I haven’t made that many calls, and they’ve all been simple things. When I called to find out about my air conditioning unit that seems to be going bad, that is not even worth having the service. They’re just, “We’re gonna pump Freon in it.” It was insane. I might as well just not have the insurance. I have absolutely nothing positive to say about them. American Home Shield is not worth the headache.

American Home Shield kinda encourages doing claims online. I do my claims that way and it seems to be easier. I tell them what my claim is and pay my deductible. That way, the service people won’t have to worry about collecting money on site and my wife doesn't have to deal with it. A contractor schedules a visit and they come in. We tell them this is the unit and this is what it’s like. It’s not cooling or not turning on. They take it from there.

I made a claim when the rear air conditioner was not cooling. The technicians that came out were nice people. They were on time and everything went great. They said that the compressor was not working correctly. They replaced the compressor and filled the back full of the liquid Freon. I paid for the Freon. We got one of those smart control things and I turned it on. Later that evening, the girls were telling me that the air conditioner was not cooling. I called Mr. Barnett back. They said, “That’s horrible. Let us come back and check it out.” They did that and apparently, the compressor was no good or just didn’t work for whatever reason. They said they have to order another compressor, and they did. It took about a week to get that part in. It was not a big deal and I thanked them for coming right back out.

They came back out and swapped the compressor out. They had to refill it with the Freon again. But at this point, something else wasn’t right. It was the reverse valve panel and the technicians worked on it. They couldn’t get the air conditioner running, going and cooling. They said they were gonna have Mr. Barnett come out and look at the problem because it was a reverse panel and they didn't have the part on their truck. I said that was not a problem and thanked them.

Mr. Barnett came out Sunday. We went through it and he was out there for quite a while. I was there with him and I was just trying to help and understand the best I could. At that point, there was a reverse valve part that they had to do which required something. They would have to cut something inside the unit and put something in it. Mr. Barnett said he had to get all that ordered and he did the best he could. It's been maybe five weeks that the air conditioner isn’t working. I texted their number asking if there were any news.

I’m not upset with the technicians nor with American Home Shield. Everyone’s doing what they can. It’s the time of the year where the air-conditioning business is super duper busy. I’m just kinda hoping that the problem is taken care of as soon as possible. Barnett has always done a super job. They come when they say they’re gonna come. They’re great people who are very honest. If anyone complains about American Home Shield or Barnett specifically, it’s all because they don’t understand the policy.

A long time ago, when I first started this, American Home Shield explained my policy to me. They told me what would happen if I have this and if I have that issue. It just made sense to me. American Home Shield can’t warranty every little thing under the sun. That would be ridiculous. I am so happy with American Home Shield. It’s probably the greatest investment I’ve ever had. I couldn’t be a bigger fan.

The repair fixed the problem immediately. One time, AHS gave me a company that was not local and it was gonna be two weeks for them to fix my air. That was not acceptable. I had two claims on the same day, about a washer machine issue and the air conditioning issue. One of the gaskets on the washer machine broke so it was leaking water out, and that claim worked out perfectly. The guy was able to come the next day and he actually had the parts so we were back up and running within the day. I was very impressed with that.

The air conditioning one, on the other hand, was an ongoing issue. The AC service contractor was good. But we had to go back and forth with the issue all the way back from the fall. We had been putting the compressor but that ended up being bad. The AC wasn't blowing cold enough and the contractor had to come back out. Then that whole situation got messy because American Home Shield wanted to bring in another company. They also tried to deny the claim even though it was a broken part. The first company messed us up and said it wasn't an issue with the previously replaced compressor. It was not entirely American Home Shield's fault. But the second opinion process needs a little revision. We had a problem getting a second company out to do another inspection. It took a lot more headache than it was worth.

I ended up calling the company that did the install directly. They worked with Home Shield and got it resolved very quickly. But when I tried to do it on my own, dealing with managers and phone calls, it took a week of trying to get somebody out to work with me on this. And anytime I had to call in and speak to a manager, it always took about 40 minutes to get somebody on the phone. So that was a little frustrating. The call-in definitely takes a long time compared to online. When I submit the claim online, it's fine. But when I have to call, the wait time is way too long sometimes. Submitting a simple claim is no big deal though. I just say I need them to come out and fix something.

Overall, with these last claims, everything was fine. That air conditioning issue was the only major issue I had. The appliances are also good and working now. Getting those repairs made were critical because we needed a working laundry machine to not go to a laundromat. Then it's also the middle of summer in North Carolina. I need the air conditioning working.

Our air conditioning unit was surging and causing our breaker to trip. So, there was something wrong with the air conditioner that was causing it. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was literally just placing a phone call but I did it online instead, and it was very easy. When you call AHS with any kind of issue to talk to a customer service person, the wait time is typically 30 to 45 minutes, which is an excessive amount of time to have to wait to speak to a person. Twice, when we called trying to get this resolved, the person asked to put us on hold and hung up on us on both times. So, we had to go through another 30 to 45-minute wait to call back and to talk to someone else. So, that's annoying, but once you get through, everything is okay.

The way we understand it is that the contractor has a contract with AHS to do services for a certain amount and this particular company has tried to circumvent that and throw a lot of unnecessary cost on the consumer themselves that was not covered. We did not have a positive experience with them. We complained to AHS about them and refused to let these people come back out. We requested a different company, still using American Home Shield. Unfortunately, that company didn’t have anyone available so, we were able to pick a person that we want to use, who we found, and they just have to give all the information to AHS.

We’ll pay them out-of-pocket and then AHS will reimburse us. The AC has not been fixed yet. It takes a few days for the air conditioning company to get approved and we’re fine with that. In the meantime, the AC has been working okay and we’ve been home to flip the breaker back over if there’s a problem. So, we’re happy with how things are going right now.

I had a service call to my house for a toilet issue. The toilet was continually running and it was overflowing. It is the only toilet in the house, and I got kids. I had to turn the water at the toilet off to keep it from overflowing and to keep it from running when I wasn’t home. The guy from Patriot Plumbing came out and he said we needed a part. But three times later of having to call them to have him come right back out again, the plumber himself admitted that he had used the wrong part and had modified the part to try and make it work. So, I called American Home Shield and told them what the plumber told me. I also told them that they need to give me somebody different because this person obviously didn’t know what he was doing, or they could replace the toilet. They said they would replace the toilet, and that took another couple of weeks. This has been going on for about three months now.

Another guy from Patriot Plumbing came out two weekends ago to replace the toilet. First, he told me that my toilet was not made anymore. But I saw it in Home Depot on display on the wall this past weekend. It's still being made. Then, he bought this expensive toilet and put it in, but he said it doesn’t sit on the flange. And that I have to remove the ceramic tile around the toilet. But there are flange extenders at Home Depot in that same aisle with the toilet. All he had to do is buy a $5 part and fix it. He refused to do it. So, he raised it back to American Home Shield and told them that the flooring needs to be removed. The flooring is not covered under my insurance policy, but the toilet is. I called American Home Shield and told them that the guy just didn’t wanna do the work. I also tried to explain to them that this situation was pretty much an insurance fraud issue. I'm out $125 deductible, and I need it fixed.

Last weekend, I called another plumber on my own. I paid $400 and some out-of-pocket. It was fixed in 20 minutes. So, I called American Home Shield back to try to cancel my policy saying that I had to call another plumber out there, paid $480 out-of-pocket for the repair, but they still haven't resolved this claim. They sent me to customer retention who tried to sell me to stay with them by saying that they will have somebody from the contractor call me. This was last Tuesday. Somebody called me from the contractor, argued with me on the phone for 20 minutes, and then told me he would call me back within 30 minutes. It's been a week today and I still haven't heard from them.

While all the stuff with the toilet was going on for so long, a leak started under the kitchen sink and the bathroom backs up to the kitchen. So, I called American Home Shield again. I told them that understood this was gonna be a second issue, so I paid another $125 deductible. They sent the same plumber guy out for the issue under the sink. He came out and told me that he couldn't fix the pipe because we have to remove all the cabinet around the sink. I told him to just cut a hole in the back of the cabinet. But he told me he his arm won't reach up there to fix it. So, he left.

I called back American Home Shield and asked for the status of my claim. They said the plumber stated in the notes that he needs the cabinets removed and they don't cover that. They told me that I have to remove the cabinets and then call them back so we can reschedule the service. I told them that the cabinets don’t have to be removed. The guy just didn’t wanna do the work. So again, I called out the plumber that I paid for the toilet, and he had it fixed within the hour and only charged me $200. He didn’t even have to remove the cabinets or cut a hole. He said the guy just didn’t wanna do it.

I've had other calls with American Home Shield in the past, and I used to be a pretty big supporter. When I had a problem with my washing machine, they replaced it. They gave me a credit to go out and buy another washing machine. It was worth it back then. But when I had an air conditioner claim, the tech couldn't even buy a part because the part has to come from American Home Shield and it takes over a week to get in. It's not worth it at all. I'm paying $80 a month for a policy that is worthless to me. I can call my own contractor out the same day and fix the issue.

American Home Shield is outsourcing their customer service and you can't speak to anyone that has English as their first language. It's very, very frustrating. And they're reading off a script. When you ask to speak to the supervisor, they tell you there's no supervisor available. It's just routine. You can't get anywhere with them. It's terrible. It awful. Every time I call American Home Shield, I get somebody from India or Middle Eastern that I can hardly understand, and they're rude. One time, I had a woman on the phone for over an hour and when she came back, she argued with me and hung up on me. I want my deductibles back for both calls on my toilet and kitchen sink. I've had to pay out-of-pocket and I'm gonna cancel my policy which is up for renewal in August. I have had them for a very long time, but I am done with these people.

American Home Shield contractors come pretty quick when I make my claims - usually like a day or two. My most recent claim with them was for my pool. I was on a conference call when the technician from Champion Pool came. I answered the door and I couldn't go talk to him. I just pointed out where he needed to go. But as soon as I got off, the guy was gone. I didn't know if he fixed anything or what happened. He wasn’t here that long, maybe 20 minutes. I never heard anything back. I sent an email and said that I didn't get any information. I called twice and left messages, but he never called me back. My pool seems to be working though, so I guess he fixed it. But it would've been nice to know what he did.

The guy who came out for my air conditioner, however, was really super nice. I had him come out and check the AC because I have a contract with an air conditioning company that comes out twice a year and check everything. They told me I need a new air conditioner because it was leaking. That didn't make sense. But the AHS tech said the air conditioner wasn't leaking and I didn't need a new one. He did a little prep on it and that was it. Everything is great.

I had a problem with American Home Shield once where I got a contract for my son and they kept billing me. He had it for a year. Every time he was gonna put a claim in, it said that the contract wasn’t active. Their people kept telling me not to worry about it. This was in April. The contract was showing as expired, but AHS was still charging me. I tried to explain it to their customer service but the girl just couldn't get it. I had to cancel the policy because she couldn't figure out what to do. I paid for two months and I got a refund for one month because I had to go through the credit card and dispute it.

Submitting the claim for our dryer was a pain in the butt because we have to go online and do everything. But other than that, it went smoothly. The contractor called and told us they would be out within a certain range of time. They were good and our dryer is up and running. But when we had problems with a drain and I had absolutely no confidence in the person that came out. He didn't scope it, and he just made a judgment call on what it was. He was awful.

I told him that toilet was backed up, but he kept flushing it until my whole bathroom was flooded. I had to pull out all sorts of towels to soak it all up because he didn't have any water vacuum with him. So now I've got a whole stack of laundry. The toilets and sinks were backing up, so he arbitrarily called it an obstruction. Then we got a call from American Home Shield and they said it was not covered under the warranty since it was an obstruction. So I had another plumber come out and they looked at it and scoped it, and there is a collapsed pipe. This new plumber has documented what it is. He got scoping film of what it is, and after they do the repairs, I'll be submitting it to American Home Shield for a correct diagnosis.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 15 years and I’ve only had one bad experience with them. That had to do with my refrigerator. Otherwise, it’s been good. Generally speaking, their contractors had been very good although I had a couple that I felt like were not qualified. Their reps have all been positive too except for a couple. The last claim I made was for my AC and that was a good experience. The contractors were able to repair it.
