When I was having AC issues, it was easy to submit an online claim for it with American Home Shield. Then a couple days later, a contractor from Metropolitan came out for the service. It was pretty fast. He was very respectful and professional. He fixed it on the same day. And the AC is still 100% since.

I've been with American Home Shield for a number of years, and I’m one of their happiest customers. They had a new appliance service company that’s set. Before, it was a different one. One time, the repair guy did everything he could. It’s kind of a mess when you don’t have a washer for a month. He did everything he could to get my washer up as soon as he got the parts, and he was here and cleaned up behind himself. He was really a nice man. I have recommended AHS to a lot of people.
Good Morning Deloris,
Thank you for providing us with feedback regarding your most recent American Home Shield experience. It is our goal to provide our customers with a great experience and team of contractors to complete the repairs. We hope you continue to enjoy!

We had a 15-year old garbage disposal that was an original with the house. When water started coming out of the bottom, I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I put it in online first and I immediately got the name of the company that was coming which was Third Generation Plumbing & Mechanical. I got online to check the reviews and they were not good. Everyone said not to use them. I called the insurance company and the girl there was very nice. I told her what I found out. She looked at it and said she would send a senior technician. That worked out fine.
The technician was here at 9:30 on Monday morning. I was surprised he came so soon because I didn’t call until Saturday night. I guess he happened to be in Lakeland. He was very good. He put a new garbage disposal in. He had one in the truck and it looked like the same brand that was taken out. The technician was in and out of here rather quickly. The garbage disposal has been working well.
Good Morning Linda,

The air wasn’t working, and it was because whoever had mowed the lawn wound up cutting the electrical cord with a weed whacker. The contractors that AHS sent were amazing. And they came and they fixed it. They did a great job and they were perfect. However, when I tried to do submit a claim online to AHS, it was a little confusing only because I have never done it before. The person that I purchased the house from, that Realtor, didn’t explain it at all. The packet that they gave me didn’t really explain it. It wasn’t user-friendly.
What happened was I closed on a Friday. I called on a Saturday, and it kept telling me that the number I was putting in was incorrect. But it was the number that they gave me to use. So I’m thinking now, “I don’t have this warranty,” because they’re telling me I’m not in the system. But I was in the system. That’s where I was pretty unhappy because I was out of town. I had people there that were moving, and they were screaming because they were upset. I almost got to the point where I was just gonna pay somebody to go out and fix it and not even worry about it. And it was a weekend and I didn’t know how long it would actually take for someone to come and do anything. So it was about a week before the contractors were able to do it. It was 87 degrees out and that was not a good thing.
So now that I know that I’m in the system, and I know that if it doesn’t work by that, I go by my phone number. But there was nothing in there that said, “If the number’s not right, do this.” So that would be the one thing that I would fix on that. But other than that, it was lovely once I figured it out. The only thing I did notice is that they don’t call back on the weekends at all, which I think should have been explained. The Realtor said they’d call me back. And then when I got somebody, they said, “You’re gonna hear from the contractors in 24 hours.” That’s not true. I didn’t hear from them in 24 hours. It’s 24 hours if it’s a work week, but not on the weekends.
Good Morning Debra,
I apologize for the confusion via the website, we will work to make it more user-friendly for you!

Our AC unit went out and we submitted a claim for service over the phone to American Home Shield. They took three weeks to get a contractor to us as it was summertime and there was nobody available in Victoria who was affiliated with them. So, we had to use a contractor at least over 50 miles away to perform service. Still, the techs who came did great and completed the service all in one day. Everything has been working fine since. Still, AHS needs to reach out to towns where clients live and try to get contractors who are closer. Scheduling with a tech over 50 miles away is ridiculous and they can't pinpoint a time to meet me. They wanna give me a four-hour window when they may show up and I gotta take off work to meet them.

I sent in a claim to American Home Shield when the water machine in my refrigerator was not working. Then the ice machine wouldn't work. Ice would fall out all over the floor when the door is opened. Everything is frozen over in the freezer. There's inches of frost on it. The contractor has been out and they fixed one thing, but it's not solving the problem. They fixed another thing, but still didn't solve the problem. And now, they're out for the third time. But the contractor is very nice and they do a good job. The refrigerator works when they leave, and then boom, they're back here a few weeks later for the same refrigerator.

The agitator in my washing machine was not working. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was easy. But getting a part was another story. They couldn't get the part for a month. The contractor told me that I had to wait for a part so I did. But he didn't take the washer completely apart to find out what was actually wrong. Also, the Vietnamese guy was really hard to understand. The part we waited for was alos not the part that needed to be replaced. We finally got that turned in so we could order the part. By then, I had enough so I wanted to call somebody else out. The new people came out and did the same thing.
The second time, they were ordering the wrong part. Finally, the real part came in. The Vietnamese guy came back with it and put it in. I have no idea what the issue was. But whatever it was, it was stupid. The washing machine is working okay now but it took probably six weeks to get it done. I had to go to the laundromat several times and I think I should have been reimbursed for that. But American Home Shield is not gonna do anything. They don't work with you. If you try to get this settled, they just say that they're gonna get in touch with this person and that person which is absolutely no good because it’s not ever gonna happen. I was satisfied before with American Home Shield but after that experience, I never wanna go through that again.

We had water leaking continuously and when we submitted a claim with AHS, their reps did a good job. They called somebody and had a contractor scheduled to come out. Then, within hours after the time we were finished talking on the phone, the tech was out here to fix the issue. He was absolutely super and he showed me exactly what the problem was. I was pretty sure what it was anyway, but I still liked that he showed it to me. Then he put in a new part and fixed it. He was out of here within 20 minutes and things have been perfect since then. I was very satisfied with my experience. In fact, I told the tech while he was here that I was really happy with what he did and how fast the repair got done.

We saw that the detergent in our dishwasher was only half dissolve. And since my wife set that twice to turn on the hot water, it was suddenly warm. It didn’t get hot completely like it should be. So, after seeing that happen several times, we put in a service call with American Home Shield. Choice Plumbing came out, and the gentleman was amazing. He was friendly, professional, and he found out that the element underneath was bad. So, he replaced it, and right after what he did, everything was back to normal. We have the hot water the way it should be, and when we watch the dishwasher, all the detergent were dissolved completely.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for 21 years, and I stay with them because they always find very good contractors for me to work with. Also, American Home Shield is one of the best extended warranties. And so far, we’ve been happy with them. I’ve been recommending American Home Shield to every friend that I have. And some of them got contracts with American Home Shield because of what I told them.

We've called American Home Shield multiple times to file a claim, trying to get through, and we were on hold. The most frustrating part was the hold for very long periods of time. It was 45 minutes or longer. And then, most of the time, somebody answers and we can't hardly understand them. We've had Woods Appliance out for the refrigerator and dishwasher, and we had good experiences with them up until lately.
We've called about some plumbing issues and American Home Shield had to use Gash Plumbing out of Higginsville. I'm not a real fan of Gash Plumbing. I much prefer some of the guys in Warrensburg, which we're right in the middle between Warrensburg and Higginsville. That was a little frustrating. I paid for a couple of plumbing things myself just because I didn't wanna use Gash, and that's who the American Home Shield representative would insist upon using. We did had to replace hot water heater and we went through Gash. They did a fine job. But they're just not my first choice for plumbing.
My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the dishwasher and it was a six-month ordeal. Woods Appliance came out and looked at it. The tech came out three different times. He was gonna recommend replacement of the dishwasher but we never heard back from him. And then we couldn't get him to come back out. We contacted American Home Shield and they reached out to him, but we still didn't hear back from him. After we talked with the representative from American Home Shield, he said they were going to replace the dishwasher and to allot a certain number of dollars. So we did that, and we're very thankful. It was just frustrating for a few months. But other than that, it went well. We're very satisfied with American Home Shield. Our year's up in August and we're going to renew with them.

Starting the day we moved in, our dishwasher wasn't cleaning anything. Also, starting a month and a half ago, our ice maker wasn't working either. Submitting claims online to American Home Shield to me a while to figure out. I had to find an old email and track it around from there. Every month, I get an email that tells me home tips but doesn't tell me what to do to file a claim. I had to Google American Home Shield and hope to find the right place to file a claim. Though they got a tech out within 48 hours and he was fine, it took me months to figure out how to file.

American Home Shield is very quick to respond when we leave a message about what we need done and they text us about what company is going to come out. They’ve also been very upfront about everything and the contractors are usually very prompt. We had a pool motor that was loud and needed to be replaced, and Alchemist Pool Service came out the next day. And they were very good. They explained everything to my husband about what they were doing, how they were doing it and why they were doing it. So they were very professional. They actually got the motor that needed to be replaced the same day. Now, there's another problem. There's something wrong with the pressure or the water sensor. So they're coming out in the next day or two to address that problem. Then as far as communicating with us about everything that needs to be done, they contact us in less than 24 hours.

Our most recent service request with American Home Shield was a bit of a fiasco. We originally filed a claim with them because our water heater was making noises when it would fire up. It made a big whoosh sound, like the pilot light was being overfed too much gas. They sent a local plumber out, but in the interim from the time that I made that phone call to the time that the plumber came out, we had another issue, which was a toilet that overflowed and flooded a part of our house. So when the plumber got there, they addressed that, which was a toilet that had blockage, and a flap on the toilet that wasn’t coming all the way down. The water ran and that’s why it flooded. They sent another guy out the next day with an aqua jet and I was there for that. And the jet didn’t unclog it, but then he ran the snake and he got it unclogged.
I talked to American Home Shield and they told me that the claim wouldn’t be covered because my policy doesn’t cover a jet. I said that was not what ended up unclogging the toilet and it was the snake. They said, “Well, if it’s over 100 feet, we don’t cover that.” According to the technician, it was only 80 feet. We went round and round, and the plumber finally got American Home Shield to cover the issue.
In the meantime, the water heater was never addressed and it ended up failing. I ended up in the hospital and had a emergency surgery that I wasn’t expecting. So we contacted that same plumber. The last time we had the water heater replaced, American Home Shield sent a plumber out from about 200 miles away from us, who installed the water heater. The heater was not serviced in our area. But it was supposed to be more efficient and it was mandated for the area where this plumber was. That same plumber that we met through American Home Shield, said, “They’re really inferior. They pump too much gas. That’s why you were hearing the big poof sound. It burns out the whole screen,” and it needed to be replaced. We ended up paying for it ourselves because it would’ve been three days before we got approval from American Home Shield to have it looked at, and I didn’t want my wife to be out of hot water.

The American Home Shield representatives were very matter-of-fact and businesslike. The contractor came the first time and looked at the job pretty quickly. It’s just taking a little bit longer to get the parts and get it fixed, though part of that is my fault because I was out of town. However, I was hoping for a better payout. I was under the impression that they would replace the whole thing instead of just the compressor because of the age in my unit. But they're having to do modifications, and the modifications aren’t included.

My recent claim experience with American Home Shield is working out fine. I just have one thing that hasn’t been fixed yet. And it had to do with electric stuff. I have a 220 cable running out of the ground, and what I’m trying to do is have a like a transformer box hooked up to it and the wire clipped, so it’s within code. And I don’t know if I put that into details or if I put anything in the details, but that was another thing that I needed to be done. Other than that, AHS is awesome. And the boss from Electro-Tech South Texas ended up coming out, which was very impressive. He said he goes out to all of the locations that he sends his workers to just to get a heads up on what’s going on, so he’s warm and fuzzy. And I thought that was very professional. Not every company can do that, but he made it personal by coming out. The workers were great. They were very respectful and they got the work done quickly.
I’ve done my claims with AHS both online and over the phone, but I prefer the online. And on every claim that we’ve had, as far as the personnel goes and the contractors that have come out, they’ve been very respectful, polite and they get the job done. Also, they follow up with us and let us know when the job is complete.

First, it's actually been a very long time since I've been treated so badly by so many people at one company. I'm physically shaking and ILL while writing this. I've had AHS for 4 plus years. Paying every month and not needing them until yesterday. It was and is 115 degrees in the AZ desert heat. I called because my HVAC capacitor went out. After 7 calls and being hung up on repeatedly they told me to find my own HVAC company to make the repair and to call back with their diagnosis. After many calls to companies who refused to work with AHS I finally found one, 24 hours later. Please keep in mind all without any air Conditioning in 115 degrees.
The HVAC tech came. We had to call 14 times. Not kidding. 14 times. Talking to rude people who would refuse to authorize a 200$ repair. Sasha was a name I received of one rep. So 14 calls and this poor technician who was simply telling AHS what was broken was also being spoken to so rudely and being accused of being told what to say by me and I didn't say anything except my property address. Even though I pay every month for 4 years they refused to authorize a capacitor repair on my 14 year old air conditioner.
The repair was 200$. The tech spent 4 hours talking to them and being hung up on. The capacitor took 5 minutes to replace. He was so incredible and AHS employees should truly feel ashamed at how disgraceful they treat people who need help. I paid $100 yesterday for a service call but they had me find a company telling me I'd be reimbursed, as long as the company was licensed insured. I could not believe how I was talked to or how the technician from the AC company who didn't even work for American Home Shield. Shame on American Home Shield and their belittling representatives who just yell, degrade and hang up repeatedly.
Good morning Jennifer.
I hate to hear about your most recent experience to have the capacitor replaced with AHS. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the level of customer service.

It’s almost July and we live in Texas. For a solid 3 weeks we’ve been dealing with the HVAC contractor AHS assigned to our AC claim. They’ve been out 3 times in 2 weeks, charged us $1,625 for items not covered by the warranty and again it’s 80 degrees in our home. AND they bilked us out of $$ as they took the payment upfront but did not change out the drain pan because “it’s too hard”. This company is Next Gen Air from Haslet, Texas. They are a terrible representation and should be fired. Just read the reviews on Yelp.
We have spent over $500 on window units just to survive to keep from going to a hotel and kenneling our dog. Enough is enough and this is beyond ridiculous. I am not asking for a whole new AC system, unless ours cannot be fixed. I’ve been a customer for over 10 years, have rarely used the coverage, paid them $10k and now hung out to dry. Run, don’t walk away from AHS.

We paid $740.00 upfront to American Home Shield for a 1 year home warranty when we purchased our home in November 2018. In early 2019, we paid another $75.00 for a service call on our Thermador cook top for a gas smell. The first technician misdiagnosed the problem and replaced the regulator instead of the leaking valves. He said if we do smell gas again, it's probably just 'burping some excess'. Two months later we are still smelling gas and paid another $75.00 for another service call with a different company. This technician said the valves are leaking. Since these valves are no longer available, American Home Shield wanted to rebuild the valves which would take 8-10 weeks without a cook top.
After many hours on the phone with different people at the company, we finally got someone to agree to send a check for a cheap GE brand cook top that cost half the price of a Thermador. We were so frustrated by then that we agreed to accept a check for $984.11 which we were told would take 14 business days. The check never came. When I called, and after waiting nearly an hour on hold, I got this response: "Oh sorry your check never got sent, we will try again, wait another 14 working days". American Home Shield has the worst customer service I have ever experienced from such a large company. It's a wonder they stay in business; collecting premiums but not paying claims. In my opinion, that is fraud! Buyers Beware!

The AC in our home quit working overnight Monday, June 24th. I placed a repair request online Tuesday, June 25th.
The good news is they had a contract (Perry Mechanical) come out the very next day Wednesday, June 26th. The bad news is Perry Mechanical did not correctly repair our AC, left, and...when we determined it was still not working...did not return our calls, emails, or Facebook messages until after 9:30 the next morning (Thursday, June 27th). The worst news is when they finally did return return our calls, they informed me "We can come back out Monday between 2 and 5." That's right, Monday, July 1st - FOUR DAYS LATER. What company that screws something up as vital to a family as air conditioning in their home makes that family wait FOUR DAYS to right their wrong?!?
Calling American Home Shield during this debacle was just as frustrating. For starters, they shouldn't even be allowed to call themselves "American" Home Shield considering they have ZERO American representatives to speak with when you call them for help. Instead, they have outsourced, offshore Indian representatives that have the empathy of a rock, repetitively reading from scripts and accomplishing NOTHING. I can add that this has been the case every single time we've had to use this warranty service: slow response times, sub-par contractors, and bare-minimum repair jobs that always required at least a second visit for them to get it right. It's pathetic.
Do yourself a favor and either find a better home warranty company (if there is such a thing, the more I research the more it seems they are all terrible) or just put the money you'd be paying these fly-by-nights into an account you can later use for repairs as the needs arise. Of course I have since cancelled my contract with this poor excuse for a company and am looking elsewhere.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

I had an issue with the squeaky furnace when we were running the AC. I filed a claim with AHS through the site and my experience was good. Then I got a text message and an email about when the tech from Key Elements HVAC would come out. They also called me and let me know that they would get somebody out there and when he came out. But there was no follow-up. Other than that, the tech was good.

I’ve had two claims very recently. Valley Pro Appliance Repair came for the air conditioner and they were great. They had come out a few weeks ago and had worked on my air conditioner, and they thought they repaired it. It started working, but then on July 3rd, I got home and my air conditioning wasn’t working again. So, they said they would send somebody out on the 4th of July, which I was happy with because I had 16 people staying at my house from Tuesday through Sunday. But then the guy ended up coming out the same day and he made the repair, and hopefully now it’s fixed. He was very professional. He went up to where my unit is, put a new motor in it and he was great.
With my refrigerator, I’m still really upset and I’m thinking about cancelling American Home Shield over that debacle. It was the week before the 4th of July and I noticed that my icemaker wasn’t working, and I thought my refrigerator wasn’t up to temp. I had people coming, so I went online and I put in for the refrigerator/icemaker, and AHS had somebody come out on Thursday. The gentleman that came out said, “It’s the thermostat. I’m gonna replace the thermostat in your refrigerator and I’m gonna put in a new icemaker, and that should take care of it.” He did and said, “By tonight, it should be making ice and your refrigerator should be up to the right temperature.”
The next morning, everything in my refrigerator had gone bad and it was not working. So, the tech came back out on Friday and he said, “Maybe the thermostat that I put in was faulty. I will put in a new thermostat.” He was going out of town and he said, “Let me know within three hours if it’s starting to get cold, and it should be starting to make ice.” Four hours later, it was still not cold and I still had no ice. He said, “In that case, I don’t know if it can be fixed. I’m gonna submit a claim to American Home Shield, telling them that what I’ve done hasn’t worked.” I said I had to have a refrigerator as I had people coming.
So, I started looking online and with the refrigerators, the earliest I could get one if I ordered it on that day would be on the 3rd, which was when all my people would start arriving. AHS called me back on Monday and said, “We wanna have someone else come out on Wednesday.” And I said, “I’m supposed to be without a refrigerator until Wednesday? I went down Saturday morning and ordered a new refrigerator, and it’s going to be here Wednesday afternoon.”
They were like, “We’re not gonna cover it because we want this other person to come out and diagnose it.” The rep said she would be getting back in touch with me, but that was before they tried to set up another tech. Even if I keep the refrigerator, when they say that it can’t be fixed because my refrigerator is almost 17 years old, who’s gonna haul it off and who’s gonna pay for somebody to come and get my refrigerator? What am I supposed to do with that refrigerator after their guy comes out and says it can’t be fixed? I got a refrigerator and I got through the week, but not from any help from American Home Shield.

For the first request, there was a little bit of delay, but after that, I think it was fine. The second one was prompt. My experience with the contractors was pretty good. As for the first one, it was for the gas furnace. So, he just replaced it. The other replaced the stuff in the toilet. However, we’re planning to put out a request for the toilet. Basically, one toilet was missed out in the fix. But I’m pretty much satisfied with my experience with AHS.

We had been having some trouble getting in to change our filter and he showed me an easier way to get through it than what we had been doing and he also was only there on multiple visits in order to see if it's working. It was wonderful. There's just a little bit of confusion as to what we're supposed to pay for the service charge. I was told originally $100 and then in an email I got it said only $75 which was great. We're confused as to what the difference was and I guess why one would pay more sometimes than others.

He went to the outside unit, he checked it, came back, and he did everything that was required. I did an online claim on that with American Home Shield, and it was fairly simple. I thought he was being honest so I did that. I canceled the order then American Home Shield sent Absolute Comfort over. A guy named Buddy came, and he was in like 5, 10 minutes. He had the air working. He said that he didn't need the part that other guy said. He told me that whoever touched my AC system screwed it up real bad with wiring and stuff. He said, "I got your air working, but you have to know that it's kinda messed up whatever he did." A couple of weeks after that, the air stopped working again. I called in and set up an appointment with American Home Shield but I had to cancel it online then I set up another appointment at a later date. When I called to see that Sears was coming, they said to call American Home Shield. But American Home Shield said to call Sears. So I called Sears and Sears didn’t have anything on record. So I called American Home Shield back and they said there was a problem because I did it online. Well, if I did it online, it should be able to flow right through and I would have no problems whatsoever. But nobody came out at that time and this is a vacation home. We’re not there all the time and that’s why I set it up that way. We had to reset the appointment up again and when the Sears man came out, he was fine. It turned out that it needed a whole new microwave.
They went back and we ordered it. But somehow, the order got switched in their online system. It went from a black to a slate. Slate, to me, is black, because when I went to school, we had slate blackboards and they were black. I didn’t realize that had switched. So on the day the microwave came out, it was wrong so they sent it back and I paid $124 to restock. Then when the next one came out, they brought it out and it was damaged. I called back in and paid $124. I figured I was gonna have to reset the appointment but the next thing I knew, I got a phone call saying the unit was being delivered the next day. But nobody was going to be there.
So I had somebody come in there at that time to accept it because I wasn’t expecting it. Then they couldn’t get in the door for some reason. We asked them to put it over in the storage unit that we have right in that same property but they refused to do it. So we put it in the back of an SUV that the guy had. I came down the next week and called up. I brought it up inside to the unit and Dunaway Appliances came out. The guy installed it and he was real nice.
The new microwave works fine but the whole process was an absolutely horrible experience. The process took two months plus and I had to call American Home Shield back and forth a couple of times. And every time you call there, you’re on the line for half an hour before you really get anybody. This is my first claim and I hope there’s never another one. We even had to pay $75 for somebody to come out and say that the microwave was broken. When this contract is up in November, I’m sure as heck not gonna renew with American Home Shield.

Our air conditioner had been running for a little over 20 years, then the compressor went bad. So, AHS sent this technician out here to check it and he confirmed the problem with the compressor. But when they come back to fix it, they sent somebody else out here and apparently, he put in the wrong compressor. He also did not do a really good job of soldering the fittings. I had a friend of mine who worked for the HVAC company and he told me to look at the gauges on the unit. He said that there was not enough gas in it and that it had all leaked out.
So, I called AHS and they sent somebody out here, a young man named James, and he was extremely knowledgeable. He looked at it and the first thing he said was that it was not the correct compressor to even be in this unit. He explained that the one that was supposed to be there is called a scroll compressor, and the one that was put in was some other kind. So, he turned to report it and 10 days later, we got the correct compressor. He came out, put it in, and regassed it.
Other than that, the breaker box was tripped when James was here. It's right around the corner from my garage and we heard this loud explosion, so we went in and opened up the box, and the breaker box was smoking. So, he tested it out to make sure it wasn't something because the lights came back on. But we knew that there was something bad. He didn't take the panel off of it and he was not an electrician, but he did go around and checked the bigger box where it comes in, and he said it had electricity to it.
So, I called AHS again and told them that I needed an electrician. The rep I talked to spoke English but it seemed like he didn't understand it. He said they were in Memphis but I've been there and they don't have a Southern accent there. I would tell the rep to speak slowly and that I'm 86 years old. I wear hearing aids and I asked him to speak loudly so I could hear him. The call would start well then he'd be talking kinda loud and soon, he'd fade off in the wild blue yonder. But every once in a while, I would get an AHS rep that would get my message, too.
Anyhow, the reason for my call was sort of an emergency because this breaker box did not look very good and I told him that it was a serious situation. And within four hours, the electrician was here and he fixed it. I have two air conditioners and one of them was upstairs. It's a little air conditioner I never used, so we just swapped it down, then hooked it up. And the new compressor has been running fine since then. It's cooling a lot better than that other one was. But my complaint is that I had to pay three technicians to come out so I could have the issue fixed. Plus. it was $600 something worth of gas that I had to pay for again. But the problem wasn't my fault and it hadn't even been in a year since the last repair.
Aside from that, AHS also had my air conditioner fixed one time before, which was a very good job. I also had a claim when my oven stopped working. I could tell there was something wrong with it because if you opened the door on the bottom of it, it was all warped. AHS sent a technician out here and while he was doing that, my EZ cooktop quit. So, they got a replacement cooktop for me. Overall, I have a 100% satisfaction with AHS. I understand when they have problems and things don't go well. And overall, I'd recommend them to everybody that even thinks about it.
Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with AHS is greatly appreciated.

I’ve been having problems with plumbing and AHS has not resolved it. I had a garbage disposal put in, and when the contractors came out, they charged me $195 for modification. That’s when they modify the pipes but they didn’t modify anything. And I have had three garbage disposals put in through American Home Shield. I’ve been with them for 23 years. Each one that came out never charged anything for modification. They just took the garbage disposal out and put it in. Now, in the meantime, he said if I get the bigger one, it’d be $350, and he wouldn’t charge me for modification. But he said he needed to modify the pipes and it’s $195. When I had another plumber come out there, he said, “If they put this in 10 minutes, they ain’t modified the pipes.” And I know they didn’t ‘cause I’m sitting there. So, I’m paying $100 for the fee and $300 for a garbage disposal. That’s ridiculous and that’s not right.
And they’re supposed to come back out today because the original claim was water was backing up in the dishwasher, and the garbage disposal wasn’t coming on. So, they tell me the garbage is backing up in the dishwasher because the garbage disposal wasn’t working. And now, I got a new garbage disposal, it’s still backing up in there. They never did snake it out. They didn’t even open and look at it.
I spoke to about three different representatives of AHS. Each time I called, they hung up on me. So, I had to call back all over again, and go through the system, and get another agent, and start all over again. I said, “If you don’t know, ask somebody.” So, the lady told me yesterday that she was gonna bump up the claim. But apparently, when I called back, they didn’t do it.
She said she was gonna email them this and email them that. I said, “Let me talk to your supervisor.” She said, “She's gonna tell you the same thing.” I said, “Well, let her tell me the same thing.” So, she finally let me talk to her supervisor. I said I’ve been calling them for a week and a half. Everybody keeps telling me they’re gonna email this, that person, and they’re gonna get back to me, email me, and call me. But nobody has called me and told me a thing. She told me that she was gonna call me within 24 hours, and she was gonna personally talk to them herself. All my other experiences with AHS in the past, I’ve had no problem. But this is horrible.

They said okay and they called and they called up the contractor. The tech came back and I didn't pay anything. I had shut the air conditioner off ‘cause it was blowing hot air. I have been a customer of AHS since I purchased my home 20 years ago. In that time I used the services here and there for minor things but I truly kept it to save me the financial pain when a major appliance would eventually stop working. It finally happened this month as my AC unit stopped working. I had an AHS service technician come out to service and get it running again and a week later it is out again. Keep in mind that this is in the middle of Texas heat.
Upon re-examining the unit I am told that the unit in the attic that it is. It covered as part of my plan because it’s due to maintenance. Now I don’t know what sort of maintenance I need to do besides changing air filter etc. But of course when you really need AHS, you are left high and dry. I received a quote to replace the unit of $9,000 and can’t believe that AHS is not covering any of it even after they say if they can’t fix it they’ll replace it. Needless to say after 20 years of being a customer I will be dropping them as soon as possible and will not recommend anybody hoping for peace of mind to sign a contract with this company. My son in law will also be dropping them after my experience as well.

We couldn’t use the washer since the screw was too loose and the rep from Street Plumbing came on the same day that we submitted the claim to American Home Shield. He was on time and he immediately found the problem and he tightened the screw. He helped us put the washer in the right place, checked if the machine was working normally and if there was any leaking when we used it. He did a good job and he gave us a lot of guidance for the future. He was great. AHS responded quickly and the people are nice. Their service was better than Home Guard.

AHS really works. I love it. It's no guessing game. You tell them what your issue is, and it’s taken care of. They put you in touch with a reliable company. And it works wonderful. Recently, my issue was from the bathroom on the main floor, it was dripping into the basement. So it was something running in the wall. And I just couldn’t tell the system online, “it’s the leak that’s coming from the bathroom in the main floor and dropping to the basement.” Online wasn’t a place to submit it, so I spoke to a representative of AHS. She understood what I was trying to do and she took care of it right away. It was terrific. The contractors came out the following day and everything worked out wonderfully. Everything is fine. The hole in the wall has been, now, filled up and completed, so I am great. I also had a refrigerator replaced with AHS. So this is why I continue to sing their song and tell my people they gotta get American Home Shield because they’re the best. They’re reliable. It’s a great service, and it’s a blessing for the dollar amount. Because just a small amount covers everything in your entire house.

And so, apparently, when he took the garbage disposal out, it actually seared the side of the garbage disposal out. So, it busted a hole inside of it. The service of the contractor that AHS sent was good. He replaced the whole garbage disposal. I would definitely call them again. And I would definitely recommend American Home Shield, too.

BesTex Plumbing came out and fixed one thing and found that it was caused by an air conditioning condensation. So then, I had to contact an air conditioning specialist also. They did make a report that I had trouble with it for a long time in my kitchen ceiling. And they figured out the pipe was too short and it was leaking. The contractors were able to repair it in one visit and it looks like it solved the problem.

I asked, “Is there any way to dispatch another person?” They said, “No, not without you paying.” I don't know what am I supposed to do if they don’t answer. But submitting the claim with American Home Shield was no problem. It was a joy. I wish if they can't get ahold of the contractors, they should go ahead and dispatch one out. American Home Shield did good on my most recent claim. They sent someone to fix the pump on the pool. We’re gonna have to call them back out. The pump’s not near as strong as the one we had to begin with. It doesn't have the power that it used to have. But the contractors that were sent were awesome. They were a good group of people. They were super nice. It’s just that we really didn't notice that something was not right until we got in the pool on July 4th. And it’s possible that the sand needs to be changed too. We just haven't called for someone to come back out yet.
There were no problems when I submitted the claim. They called within two days. I did the claim online because I couldn't get through on their phone. Their call-in, if I had to rate it between 1 and 10, it’d be a 0. Other than that, they responded within 48 hours like the email said. It said 24 to 48, and they did. And the people that came out called and set up an appointment for a Monday, and they called me back that Friday before the Monday and said they thought they had the part in but they had to order it, and it would be the following Wednesday.

My experience with AHS has been okay, but the people they’ve been sending out has been so-so. My AC unit on the inside was leaking. I submitted a claim to AHS for it and they really do have good agents. I’ve had three different vendors that came out, and this most recent one, Next Gen Air was awesome. Rescue One did okay too. But US-Air has been horrible.
The first couple of times they came out, they didn’t do anything to my air conditioner. They said they see no problem, but there was definitely a problem. But Next Gen Air checked the outside and the inside. They showed me every problem that I had, and they were very informative. For the past two weeks, my air conditioner has really been working well. And if I do replace it, I’m going with Next Gen to replace my outside unit. AHS really does well, and they work with a lot of people. And the things that we normally have to pay for out-of-pocket, with AHS, we just pay the service fee. So, it was really fair.

American Home Shield's online claims process doesn't work very well. You can't schedule off an app or your phone or even off the web. My account has always had problems so I have to call them. When I call, I have to put in all my security information verbally, and then when somebody picks it up, I have to do it again, and I'm speaking to somebody in the Philippines, which is outsourced. I can understand some of what they're saying, then there's barriers with things like ordering parts.
The plumbing and electrical people have been good with American Home Shield. When the contractor came out for my dishwasher, they had to order the part. It took a little bit of a while to get the part, but their company was good. They did what they were supposed to do. They didn’t do anything bad. Also, because of the area that I live in, the person with that company had to place the schedule out a little bit. When I spoke to him, the part arrived last Friday and he installed it yesterday. And that was reasonable.
From a person who runs a business, American Home Shield is like a mill. You call in, you get somebody in the Philippines, and then they send in an order in your area, having someone to track it. It’d be a lot easier if the online really was functional and didn’t break where you could just go and the companies call you, and you skip that whole either India or Philippines outsourcing where you have some language barriers. American Home Shield should spend some money on getting the web right and having their app work well. Also, it would be great if I could call a tech and get my web account working. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to schedule a service over the phone, and that's in between language barrier and wait times, seeking your security codes.
The process of getting someone out is a bit cumbersome. American Home Shield really needs to spend more money on the ease of booking a repair. With today’s technology, it should be instant. When your time involvement is 30 or 45 minutes, it kinda makes you wonder why you're doing it. And you're kinda stuck because they're just in a group of companies that aren't very good to begin with, and then there's all the fine print. They have to come out seven times to fix something before it would get totally repaired or you'd buy a new one. So, with that monthly sum of 70 bucks a month, it doesn’t pay for itself. But the contractors that come out are good. They can do their work and get in and out.

He stated he would report back that day to American Home Shield. 1 week went by, and I called AHS. They informed me that they had not heard from the contractor, then put me on hold to reach out. Updated on 07/10/2019: If I could give zero stars, I would. Having a home warranty with American Home Shield has been a completely regretful and terrible experience. We have been dealing with them for close to 2 months now regarding our microwave which is under our home warranty. We’ve spent countless hours on the phone and missed work days with no avail. Each time we call we hear a different lie with no resolution at this point. It’s been over a week now since they last told us they will help resolve it but nothing.
My husband missed work today because the technician they had contracted did not show up to work and we didn’t find out until the last minute. And this is after the initial technician they had sent broke the hinge off the microwave and refused to come back to repair it. Oh yeah, and American Home Shield also sent the WRONG part initially. It’s lies every time we call so they can get you off the phone. Our experience with them regarding our air conditioning wasn’t any better. We eventually had to get our own technician and pay thousands of dollars out of pocket because American Home Shield kept sending incompetent technicians! If you want peace of mind, avoid them like the plague!
Original Review: My experience with this company has been nothing but headache and regrets. I can't say enough how bad the customer service is with this company. Our microwave broke a month ago and we contacted American Home Shield since our appliances are covered in the warranty. It took 2 weeks for them to send the parts (which turned out to be the wrong parts), and then the contractor they sent broke the microwave beyond repair. We've been trying to get American home shield to fix or replace the microwave and over the past month, every time we call, we get a different answer as they give us the run around. Never again! They just lie and tell you stories to try to get you off the phone. We are considering legal action against this company. Incredibly dishonest!
I apologize for the way we have handled your microwave claim. I just sent you an email in an effort to resolve your issue. I look forward to assisting you.

This company is a complete fraud. When I signed up with this company, no one told me that I am signing up for 1 year contract and there will be 1 month admin fees charge if I cancel it before 1 year. When I was cancelling the contract, no one told me that I will be charged admin fees which is equal to 1 month fees. I was charged admin fees on credit card and I noticed. I called customer care about that and then they explained that this is admin fees. I asked why no one told me upfront. They told that it's in the contract. The fact is I never received any contract till date. Rather, I called customer care 10 times asking them about contract since my account started and every time they told that I will receive contract in 24 to 48 hours which never happened.
I just read the sample contract and it says that if I cancel the contract in 1 month, I will receive full refund and I canceled exactly on 1 month date and that is something they have in notes and now, they are saying the cancellation was processed 1 day after which is over 1 day. So, we cannot refund rather we will charge admin fees which sum up to 2 months fees. Apart from that, I asked them that I don't think I want to lose this money. I will not rather cancel the contract for now because it is 1 year which I just came to know, I will rather continue. Now, they say that we cannot renew as it has already been cancelled. What is going on in this company. Is it a joke?
Tarun,
I certainly apologize that we were not able to speak with you during the cancelation process when we reached out to you. The cancelation terms can also be viewed under the online contract when logging into your account. I opened the wall up and called back on Thursday night to have him come back out and left a message. Two others calls on Friday and they still can't find someone to come out and advised me to reopen the AHS service ticket. I did so and then they let me know it would be Monday before they could come out. I now have been without water for three days and they want me to wait another 2 days?
I got another plumber out to fix it and called AHS to get my deductible back. The beginning part of stating you have a repair is easy. You contact them and set up an appointment however they do not inform you that different techs come out for different appliances therefore you get to wait for two techs to arrive to your home. I requested not to have Sears come to my home as there are horrible at home repair service. They sent out Sears. Upon arrival the techs were not knowledgeable. They ordered parts and left. Another appointment was set up and rescheduled but several times my Sears due to delay in parts delivery which I learned from UPS was due to Sears shipment delay. 2 weeks go by and they reschedule again. When you call American Home Shield or Sears you get routed to the Philippines no matter how many times you call. Which I did over ten times. I requested to speak to a manager and was promised a call. 2 weeks later this has not occurred and still has not from Sears or American Home Shield.
Four parts were delivered to my home home. The dishwasher was fixed but the tech left two screws on the floor and the old parts laying on my counter. Hopefully you don’t have small children or pets you can be harmed by carelessness. The washer tech one repaired one part and refused to replace the second part and proceeded to argue with me that it wasn’t needed. He also took the part with him that took 2 weeks to receive. My washer is still broken. Now 3 weeks later. Again when you call in you routed to the Philippines and they refuse to escalate the issue to a manager or to the US. Sears states there is nothing they can do even though their tech refused to complete his job and refuse to send him back out or return my part. American Home Shield refuses to help until I state BBB complaint.
Finally I get to the escalation department where I’m told they will send out another repairman to diagnose the issue. The issue has already been diagnosed and it will take another 2 weeks for the part delivery then another 1 week for a repair. I also was forced to complete 16 loads of laundry at a laundromat due to the continued delays. The women in Tennessee states there is nothing she can do except send out another repair person and if I cancel my plan I will be charged. She goes on the state that I have to go through the whole process again and I have no other choice. No refunds will be provided. No credits. No refund for the laundry. I ask for her manager. She refuses until I push.
Finally I get a supervisor. She states I can have a $100 credit for the parts towards a new washer or have a repair man come out and agrees may take up to 3 weeks again. She does have have the authority to credit my laundry costs or refund any fees to cancel my policy. I state that to put in a request to have corporate contact me. I will continue my statements of my experience with their company and warning to all consumers to AVOID THIS COMPANY at all cost. Horrible customer service and experience. I wish this on no one and hours and hours of my time this is not worth it.
Wow Jenifer! You have been put through so much and I apologize for that. I hate to that we did not provide satisfactory service. Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a great week.

The fridge in my rental property started to act funny, American Home Shield send 2 different companies to diagnose the problem and each company had a different version on what is the problem. After 2 months of not fixing the issue one of the companies decided to blame me as I tampered the fridge on purpose which is ridiculous since I don't even live in the house and have a tenant there.
I hired a 3rd company on my own and the guy that came in was super honest and said he stopped working with AHS since they don't respect their clients and the contractors. He gave me an estimate with a totally different diagnoses from what American Home Shield contractors gave me and promised to fix the issue. I fixed it with him and will be sending the bill to AHS via small claims court to cover the costs. I will not continue with this company as their ethics and customer service is horrible, the managers promising to call you back but never do. BAD BUSINESS!!!
I apologize for the inconvenience Eytan. I will look at your account in an effort to resolve your issue. I just sent you an email. I look forward to assisting you.

We've used AHS as a secondary insurance for our appliances, a/c units, etc at our main home & rental property for two years. We had to use the policy one time and this one request for service on our dryer was a fiasco. It took almost two weeks for them to process the claim, get a technician out, then approve the technician to work on the dryer. We had to call AHS multiple times to check on the status and each time we had to explain our claim with a different associate (most who speak broken English). Each time they told us they would call us back and never did. AHS is very difficult to work with--it's as if the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing and they do not care about their customers. We are cancelling our policies.
I hate to hear that the warranty has not been beneficial to you. I would like to hear more about your experience as I just sent you an email. I look forward to speaking with you.

This is my first time trying to get an appliance fixed. The repair was scheduled, paid as they take payment from acct that monthly fees are drawn from, and confirmed by email but no one showed up. First I was told to wait a few more hours but I didn't feel that was acceptable and was transferred to their escalation desk and ONE HOUR later was told no request for service went through to company (Sears) they sent the job to. I was given another number in US to resolve this and ended up on a different customer service number again. Just to speak to a person I used the phone prompt for sales, they always answer that number, and the woman was kind enough to take info and forward to someone in service. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get a callback and my dryer eventually gets fixed as quickly as possible. So far I've paid for nothing and apparently no repair is scheduled. Very frustrating!!!
Hi Regina,
I understand your frustration with regard to the missed appointment to have the appliance repaired. I would be glad to speak with you to discuss your experience.

I had my regular scheduled maintenance and the person told me that the drip pan was completely rusted through and had holes on it, and then he noticed that some motor needed to be replaced. He said the AC was gonna last about two more weeks and I was gonna be without one because the capacitor was running at 5%. And then they came out and fixed it.
The last time, it took it way too long. A separate claim had to be submitted because the AC company that I used to do the regular scheduled tune-up maintenance is not a contracted provider of American Home Shield. So, then I had to go make a claim, have them dispatched a different company, and then I showed them the report, and they checked and confirmed, “Yes, they’re right. Those things are not in working order.”
But this time when I filed a claim online they offered to send me a contractor the next day. But since I couldn’t do it because of my work schedule and it wasn’t an emergency, they came in 48 hours. Usually I can’t get one that fast. So this claim actually went really smoothly. They did the capacitor switch on site with that appointment and then they had to order the drip pan. So, they came out a couple days later with the drip pan and it was very efficient.

Doing everything online with American Home Shield is very, very helpful. Submitting the claim online is easier than getting ahold of them by phone. I get a really quick response when I do it online, and I know who’s coming right away when I put the claim through. When there was a leak in our toilet, AHS sent out Galloway Plumbing. The plumber was great and they fixed the problem. We've had Galloway come out to the house before when we’ve had problems, and they’ve always been the ones that we would want to come out. They were very good. Also, the people at AHS were professional and courteous. They went above and beyond.

We had an air conditioning issue and I did a claim for it with American Home Shield online. They were very responsive and quick. I got a text as soon as I submitted the claim, and then, the company that they contracted with called me. The guy who came out was very nice. He was very professional and very efficient. He came in, did what he needed to do, and left. He was also very helpful in explaining what some of the issues were and what we needed to pay attention to going forward.
Other than that, we had two different AC issues that AHS came out for. And the first one, it didn’t seem like the original problem was fixed all the way. That happens, and I wasn’t upset about that. But when I had to resubmit online to get them to come back out, it wasn’t very clear that I was submitting for the same reason. So, it charged me another service fee when it was for the same issue. I had some issues with customer service then. I don’t know if they outsource out of the country, but there definitely seemed to be some language barriers and some difficulties in them understanding what I was trying to explain. And so, I spent a lot of time on the phone trying to get it resolved.

I had drains that were clogged and two sinks wouldn't drain, one in the master bathroom and one in the bathroom upstairs. The claim went very smoothly with the claims adjuster. She told me that they would contact me and set up an appointment to come. Then it was the same day that the contractor contacted me. The guy who came out initially was very professional and did a great job. He was able to clear the drains on the sinks. But when he went outside of the house to try to clean out the main drain, he found that the pipe was broken and there was mud. So he went around to the front of the house and tried to get into the cleanout in the front of the house. But his equipment wasn’t sufficient to get far enough in there to find where the damage was.
We had a toilet that wouldn’t flush that morning, along with the sinks that were clogged before they were cleaned out. When they called out a master plumber to bring video equipment out, they found that the main sewage pipe drain is broken in a couple different places. It has three roots in it and that is a big problem. Now, they're telling me that it’s gonna be a $40,000 repair job. I need to go through my insurance company to get that paid for but when I called my insurance company, they said that there’s no coverage unless there’s residual damage to the rest of the house from the pipe, and there’s not that I'm aware of.
Also, because the sink drains were cleared, they had me sign paperwork saying that the sinks were cleared. So I don’t have any open claim with American Home Shield at the moment. My concern is that I don’t have any open paperwork saying anything about the drain pipes being clogged or broken. But the experience with Home Shield was excellent.

I've been with AHS for four years now and I was extremely happy with them. I even told everybody I know to get their warranty and that they're a good company. I told them that with AHS, you make monthly payments but if something goes out, at least you don’t have to come up with a large amount of money. But after my last claim, I’m not sure if I’m gonna continue with them after my service is up.
My oven was out and I called in a claim. A guy came to check it within a few days then he called me back the next day and told me that the part needed for the repair was no longer made. He also said that I was gonna need a new oven. From there, I was not happy. The main thing was, I would call AHS then I’d get somebody in the Philippines and nine times out of 10, they’re very hard to understand because they’re Filipinos. The ones I talked to do not speak good English and I had to keep asking what they were saying because I didn't understand. Then, I’ve always been told that you can ask to be transferred to the United States on any call that is outside of the United States and the gentleman that I talked to through purchasing said that they're supposed to do that. But every time I asked to be connected with somebody in the United States they'd tell me that they couldn't do that.
I also felt like AHS lied to me when I first got the warranty. They said that if they can’t fix it, they’ll replace it and they’ll take care of me right away. But they knew within two days of the guy coming to my house that he reported that the part was no longer available, and they just kept screwing around. I felt that they wanted me to go away and not replace it. It was so upsetting.
Other than that, I will never use the company that delivered my new oven. When the guy called, he said he was from Home Depot. Then, two gentlemen came for the delivery and they didn’t get here until 5 o’clock or a little after. They were in a rush job and I didn’t know what they were doing. They were out there digging through tote after tote, then they come back in the house and hooked the oven up. They turned on the burners with the stove all at the same time, said it was okay, then left. But that night, my husband checked it out and decided to make me a pancake. And the oven didn't light.
So, I had to call back and they sent somebody out here. And they said that it was an issue with the gas company. So then I called the gas company to come the next day, and when they did, they said that the delivery people never put a gas regulator on it. Obviously, that’s what they were digging for in their tote and they couldn’t find one so they just rigged it. I asked the guy from the gas company how come it came on when they were here and he told me to watch as he turned one burner on. Then, he turned the oven on and it would come on because then it would regulate. But if you turn the burner on and you turn it up high, it whistled. So I had to call back American Home Shield then they sent somebody out here to put the regulator on. It was just one ordeal after another and I was without a stove or an oven for about a month.

It has been getting hot here in Texas and it was 95 degrees outside. The upstairs was almost 90 degrees and I noticed that my air conditioning was never shutting off. I could always hear it running and it was because it was trying to compensate for the heat from the upstairs. So, we decided to file a claim to American Home Shield. Everything was online. I logged in to my account, filled out a couple of questionnaires and then, I made my $75 payment. Two days later, I had a call from the air conditioning people to schedule and the contractor came out within four days. He was super nice and didn’t mess around. He listened to what I had to say. He went straight outside and within 15 minutes, he knew exactly what it was. He went back to the truck, repaired it and everything came right on. Since then, the house has been perfect. I went online and I put in a service order with American Home Shield for our plumbing issues. And someone ended up calling me from the other end. They set it up, and the person from 2 Sons called me. They came in and fixed the dripping water in the kitchen faucet and shower head in the bathroom. The contractor mentioned that there was an elastic thing inside the shower head that broke, so he fixed that. The same thing was happening for the kitchen faucet, so he tightened it as well. He didn't have the kitchen faucet elastic ring. He did mention that it was because my home was a little bit built in a different age, so he had to go and find it from one of the stores and he would be back. So, he gave me a time limit which was 24 hours.
He came back and fixed it. And when he fixed it, he made me sign something and then he took off. He was very professional. I like the fact that he was very thorough. When he finished a specific job, he ended up explaining what he did. And then he also had the time to show me how to do it just in case in the future I decided that I wanted to do it for myself before I called them. Things has been so far, so good. The water is no longer dripping. It was something minor, so that was really nice. It was my first time calling in, so it was really nice for me to know that I could do all of that at once for the first time.

I called American Home Shield and spoke to a person when our AC quit working. I was told that someone would call me but nobody ever called me. I guess the first contractor that they had scheduled called them back, told them they couldn't do it and canceled the service. But nobody called me to let me know. I ended up calling American Home Shield two days later and finding out that it was canceled. I asked the lady how come nobody called me and asked me if I had canceled it. I was told, "Oh well, we’re looking at it and the contractor canceled it." I was like, "So what are we gonna do?" That was when they ended up getting Molina's Air Conditioning & Heating out there.
That contractor actually came out the day I called again, after I threw the fit, and they were very good. They looked at the unit and said that a new unit was gonna have to be installed on the inside and that they would have to get everything approved through American Home Shield. That took another four days despite knowing that our AC doesn't work and by that time, I was already frustrated so I scrounged up the money and bought a whole new AC, inside and out. Even after that, I haven't heard anything from American Home Shield. I'm dissatisfied.

AHS has been wonderful. Whenever we submit a claim their contractor comes after a couple of days. I was very impressed. And that's not easy to do. They had to order the part and they came back three days after. We had two claims. We had the air conditioner. And then the same weekend, I called a plumber. He came, ran his little Roto-Rooter down the drain. But he couldn't get it and left. He said it was probably the P-trap and I could try some Drano, but he couldn't get it.
I asked him, "That's your take on it?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Well, you're just about worthless, and you can leave." And so, he apologized and did. I have never heard of the stuff. And I'm assuming it's gonna cost me $75 for him to come out here and to have done that. I went down to the Home Depot and got their latest and greatest and it didn't work. I'm gonna have to tear the sheetrock out to get to my pipe now, and I'll fix it myself, but I thought I'd give the home warranty a shot. But wow, you're talking about a shock. My garage door spring broke. And I had forgotten that American Home Shield covered that. So, I called another company. Unfortunately, I ended up paying $324 with that company to fix the spring. But the reason the spring was broken was because the garage door opener, the length track was off and could not be fixed, so it needed a new whole garage door opener system. So, I double checked with American Home Shield. They cover it, so I got Precision Door out to fix that part. And it was really nice because the guy upgraded my system to a better one, and he gave me an extra free remote. He went out of his way to help me and lubed my doors and everything else. So, I’ve had an excellent experience with them.
American Home Shield replaced my whole heating system, my cooling system, and my refrigerator. They fixed my old refrigerator several times. They fixed my garage disposal and my washer. So, they’ve done a lot. And the claim is very easy. You can just go online and do it and they’ll send you an email as to who they’ve assigned it to. And generally, I’ll just call up with the company they assigned it to and see if they have it, and make an appointment.
The hardest thing I've had with them was my furnace because that was out in the worst part of winter. And so, I had to keep heaters going all over my house. And they ordered the wrong one, so then, that delayed it even more. Also, I couldn't go to work for a week because I had to stay home waiting because I couldn’t leave my heaters unattended by myself, and I couldn’t let it get that cold and freeze the pipes. So, that was the worst experience I had with them, and it was just a delay. But for the most part, it’s always been very good.
I also sometimes end up doing more follow-up with them. Sometimes, you have to just really do the squeaky wheel thing because their follow-up is a little bit slow. Plus, whoever they contract with, sometimes it takes them a while to get out to see you. But they replaced all of my major systems. So, they're worth it by far, and I will keep them. And I’ve known other people with other home service warranties, and they got screwed by them. So, I will always stay with AHS and keep paying the monthly fee because they're good. It gives me peace of mind. I would recommend their service.

They told me who the contractor would be and sent me an email with his name, address, and phone number. I contacted the contractor because we had a load of wash that needed to be done and I wanted to get it going. It took them couple of hours to come out. Our interaction was fine, but the person that came out is not a direct employee of Magic Appliance. The person that came out is a contract employee who does the repair work for the insurance firm.
The dryer worked okay for a day, and then stopped working again in which, then, I had to call Magic Appliance again. They sent the same person out again who said that a part was gonna have to be ordered, and it would take a few days to get the part in. After a couple of days, I called Magic Appliance and they said the part was in. And they had the same tech come back out and install the part, and it’s been working fine ever since. The person who came out to do the repairs was on the phone continuously with somebody else, and they were Skyping on how to repair the machine. That kinda bothered me, but then again, the job got done. So, I didn’t really complain about it. The person who did the repairs is also fairly new to the United States and speaks English okay. I called them and they said they had changed the time but they still didn’t come. They would hardly even answer. They were very inconvenient.
Finally, they came but when they were fixing the unit, I asked them why it was still leaking and they said they didn't know. That was ridiculous because this is what they do and they should know. But after the second time that they came, the leakage did stop. I guess it just needed a second cleaning or they didn’t do it right the first time they came by. But the American Home Shield side is great and I've recommended them. Filing claims online was also easier than over the phone. But American Home Shield should choose who they use for services, especially like the last one I had, Coastal Pool Repair. The pool guy was amazing and the experience was easy.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling the house and I didn't know what was going on with it, so I put in a claim with AHS. It took a little while to get scheduled because it was over Memorial Day weekend. But the tech who came out was awesome. I also had a claim for my washer and the tech came out to work on that last week. Then recently, I thought the light bulb was blown in my kitchen. But I put a new light bulb in and it didn't come on. So, I went on YouTube and they were saying it was probably the ballast, which was an electrical stuff that had to be changed out.
So, I put in my claim with AHS online and within 24 hours, I got the tech scheduled to come out. In fact, their reps are coming out today. It's so funny. Every time a tech comes out, it's always like it's nothing. He'd say that he'd fixed it, that it was just this part, and he had it on his truck. My experience with AHS has been great and I don't ever see myself getting rid of the warranty. I live by myself, so it's nice to be able to call or put in an order and know it's gonna get done. But I had issues with the garage door opener two years ago and last year, and both times, American Home Shield sent the same person but that person is very non-professional. He spent 60 seconds, said he couldn't fix the issue and demanded his money. Two years ago, he demanded his money right away. The last time, American Home Shield changed the system so I had to pay upfront. The service person recommended us to call another place and when that place came, they charged us 400 bucks. So that person is not good at all. Although in the past, not all the experiences were good, this most recent one was a good experience.

I had an electrical problem with the refrigerator. The handle on the front of the door of the ice maker that releases and lets the ice drop down was not working. I went online and filed a claim with AHS which seemed easier than calling in because I could do it on my own convenient time. But I had not heard from the tech that they assigned to my claim in about two or three days, so I called him since AHS gave me the name and the phone number of the person that would be handling the claim online. Then the tech set an appointment up the next day and he came out. He determined that it was a solenoid or electrical part then he went back and it was ordered. He called me a week later when it came in and made an appointment again. Then he came out and installed it. Now everything works great and that repair only cost me my normal $75 fee.
I had two claims right there back-to-back. The other one was for a ceiling fan out on the patio and the electrical guy that AHS assigned to the claim contacted me the same day. He also came out the same day. I've had American Home Shield now for about eight years and they have also replaced air conditioners for me. They have put in new heating units up in the attic as well. I'm content and happy with them. And as far as that goes, I'll stay with them.

We had a refrigerator problem and a plumbing problem at the same time. The plumbing contractor was great. The person from the office side was really good because she kept updating us. I reached out to American Home Shield and I was waiting for their authorization. It's stressful when this happens. The refrigerator problem was an existing problem so I had to call American Home Shield. There was a long wait time on the phone. I called a few times because I wasn't hearing back.
When our water heater was leaking, I contacted American Home Shield, and they determined the company. Then, the company called us to schedule. They came out and then they had to get approval from American Home Shield. It seemed like there was a lot of back and forth that was happening. It took a little bit longer than we would have liked because the company had to hear back from American Home Shield. Then, they got the authorization to purchase the water heater. But then they found out that the water heater didn't fit in the area that it needs to go, so they had to go back to American Home Shield for a different approval of something else. The frustrating part was calling American Home Shield. I was on hold for at least 30 to 45 minutes just for them to answer. But the last time I called, it was pretty fast.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for my garage door. I love their process as it was super easy. The tech called me within 24 hours and I set up the time for them to come. He came hella fast. He had to replace a black thing that was melted inside my garage door. After which, the door worked. A day or two later, it stopped again so I went online and AHS sent that tech back out. He said that two wires were touching on the outside of the box so he moved them and the garage door started working. Later that same day, it quit working again. AHS sent the repairman back and he said that he had to order one of the chips inside. Despite the issues, the tech was awesome.

I had a claim for a repair to an icemaker. I called American Home Shield and reported it. They forwarded my information to the local serviceman, and they called on me and got it fixed. They first came out, looked at it, and diagnosed the problem. They gave me a report on it and said they would order the part. They called me in a week or so, said the part was in, and they came back out and fixed it. They knew what they were doing. They replaced a whole unit of the icemaker and it didn't take them 30 minutes. It was no delay of any kind. They did their job and were nice people.

Call AHS on Monday and was scheduled an appointment. Company which was assigned indicated that they cannot support 6 units and order was canceled. Call second time was assigned another company, who was questioning why is the house have 6 AC units. Order was reassigned since company could not support. Call another time, third company indicated only can come 7 days from the day I called. Called again, assigned another company, who first confirmed the appointment then changed it to another day, since original technician does not know my house and another does (I thought technician should know the trade not the house). Multiple attempts to reach the AC company got nowhere, times was getting changed and changed.
Now experience with AHS: each time spoke to customer service individual was told different rules of the contract. However, when I pointed each time to the details of it, it just happens that I am correct (apparently). Service reps would try to get you run around and when you get escalation team they would promise the world with indication about making a notes into the claim. However, when claim is canceled or reassigned, notes are gone.
AHS - when warranty was purchased, I did not find any content that said, I should deal with not reliable companies, services would not be completed or even started after 5 days, that I should call each day, spend 2-3 hours on the phone and still get nowhere (get a full time job calling AHS for services). When payment was taken - it was fast, services and support are nowhere to be found. While writing this review, I am being on the phone with AHS exactly 1 hr and 39 min. No solution or resolution for the 3 time just today. AHS does it really only take a bad review for you to even initiate some assistance or any effort, cause there is no other way to get your attention.

After several phoning the supervisor accepted that I will pay for the second faucet and they will install it. On the day they were supposed to do this they sent a fighter not plumber. Refused to do the installation unless I pay him directly $100.00 for that. The agreement already I had with the home Warranty was denied. You have to understand that this is only quality they produce.
I am warning all those who are dealing with customer service: They are helpless with poor communication skills, there is no Manager or supervisor to talk to, they do not agree to send any written conclusions and lastly they bill you for service several times especially if they fail to do the repair and it takes three weeks to cancel wrong billing. When you cancel their rotten service, they charge you cancellation fees which can tell you the big mistake you did in having contract with them but it was wise to pull out of this miserable place. Last cheeck they are asking for cancellation fees because all their interest to grab your money and never ask themselves how to improve their low quality service.

My realtor purchased a one year plan for me when I bought my house last year. Worst experiences ever! Bought the house in March, so when it got hot my ac was not blowing cold air and almost no air was coming out of the vents. In addition water was pouring out of the unit and running down my roof and molding my fascia. I placed a service call with American Home Shield and next day the ac company sets my appointment for 3 days later. It's not that hot, in the low 90's high 80's so I'm OK with that. The guy that comes out is not in uniform so I'm a little leery. He's a big guy so maybe new and not in uniform yet. I'm a property manager so I get it. He inspects the unit then tells me it's low on freon and needs to be added. AHS service fee is $77 which is paid at time of service call to them and does not cover first $100 of freon. So he charges me $100.
Knowing the answer, I ask him if freon is low then is there a freon leak? He tells me no it's normal to lose freon over time. I work with huge AC companies like Trane and New England so I know this is not true. Freon is a pollutant and is a closed loop system in all ac units. If you are losing freon there is definitely a leak somewhere. So I have the unit charged and pay the $100 but argue with the guy that I know this is not true and there has to be a leak. The unit is blowing cooler air now so I figure I will call AHS and deal with the leak issue. He says he fixed the water leak problem by clearing the drain line. Next day, water still leaking on my roof even more now. I call for another service call and tell the girl that takes the call about the freon issue. She tells me too that it's normal to lose freon in a system.
We have a heated argument and they are not going to do anything about it as this is their standard response. She sends the same guy back out for the water leakage issue. Adds shims to the unit to level it but no charge for this call. So like a week later unit still leaking on my roof and now it's making this horrible screeching noise. Next day here comes the same guy with another tech that looks like he's in grade school, no uniforms. Replaces the blower motor, no charge and off they go. Unit still leaking on my roof and now really no air flow except from one vent in the house. I call again, day later same two guys come out and by now I know it's useless but let them see what the problem is. They say everything is OK but they cleaned the coils and off they go. Unit's still not blowing out any air flow but by now I give up because I know they are going to send the same two guys and nothing will be fixed.
Unit is blowing cool air out of one vent so I'll have my son look at it. He gets on the roof and tells me the unit duct is not even connected to the house main duct! When they shimmed it up they pulled the duct that connects the unit to the house ducting apart! In addition they shimmed it crooked so yah, water is going to leak out of the pan onto the roof. Long story short my son fixes this as best he can so I get enough cool air into the house to survive. I kind of figured the unit was older when I purchased the house so I figure I will replace it next hot season. Here it is next hot season and I replaced the unit last week. Contractor who took it off the roof tells me the fan was installed backward and was blowing warm air into the unit instead of out, the heat exchanger is bad and the unit should have been condemned a year ago.
On another note, AHS also sent out an appliance repair guy on my oven last year and about the same result. Guy gets my oven heating but the door is falling off after he leaves. I give up and will replace that too soon. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AHS. They have no intention of replacing your equipment unless it's unsafe and even then apparently they won't replace it. They are in business to make money not to spend it on proper repairs and replacements and the contractors they use in major cities are bottom of the barrel, inexperienced and cheap.
I hate to hear the warranty was not beneficial to you Robin. I certainly apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have a great weekend.

I've had this company since purchasing my home in 2014 and only used them once to fix a broken ice maker, which they used as another opportunity to squeeze more money out of me and it took weeks and multiple visits to get the ice maker fixed. Now that I had to sell my house because of PCS orders to a new state these con artist charge a fee to get out of the contract as if I'm going to continue to insure a house I no longer own for 6 more months.

We have had AHS warranty on our home for 5 years at $58 per month. Over $3000 in subscription fees paid over that time plus service call fees and costs for uncovered items. Every winter and summer, our HVAC goes out of service. I did not expect this warranty to replace the 35 yr old system in the first few years. Today, June 26, we are going on 10 days without AC for a total of 15 days since end of May. Having had their service providers make repairs to this equipment over 5 years, I hold AHS responsible for the poor condition of the equipment.
AHS customer service department acts with no urgency for our situation. I feel this is a greedy company that does not empower or give discretion to its employees to provide customer satisfaction. I have requested they cancel our account, cash us out for a new system and pay for the AC floor unit and fans I bought. I don't expect to get that. They want to give us $275 instead.

We recently had a motor put in and I had no problem submitting the claim online to American Home Shield. The time before last, I called instead of doing the internet and the interaction with the reps was fine. The air conditioner died in 100-degree heat and there was a $10 part that had to be replaced. The contractor came in, checked the charge on the air conditioner and then, he asked me to turn the air conditioner on. Nothing happened, so he came in to look at the furnace, and he noticed the switch was turned off, so there was no repair needed and at least, it wasn’t anything big.
The contractor was kind of flippant, but I could understand, when it was a waste of his time. He was in and out within 10 minutes. We had people tell us we could turn that switch off and save our gas bill. We’ve never done it because it’s hooked to the compressor of the air conditioner but I’ve taped it up so it can’t get accidentally turned off again. This is our second year with American Home Shield and I have recommended them.

My dishwasher was acting up. It wasn’t cleaning and doing anything. I went online to request service from AHS and the contractor came not very long. I've had him come out at a different house that we were renting before. So, it was kind of funny. I was like, “Oh, I know you.” He’s very professional and he knows what he’s doing. Basically, what was wrong was my dishwasher was fine, it’s just clogged and dirty so we need to start cleaning it better.
Apparently there’s a better method to do, and he told me the method and what to do and how to do it. He waited and showed me how to do it so I liked that. It seems to be working better at the moment. So, that’s good because I really didn’t wanna have to get a new dishwasher. I've ran the “clean” now three times since then and it’s already a lot better. And if I run it even more, it’s gonna be much better. I've had AHS for a year now. It expired because it was only for the year, and then I re-opted for the discounted price for another year.

The sink wasn't draining properly. It was backing up from the sink to the washing machine. I called it in to American Home Shield, and then they gave me the plumber's phone number. They told me that if I didn’t hear from the plumber in a certain amount of time, I could call them. So I ended up calling the plumber. When the plumber came out, he ran something through the pipes, and the water is draining better now. But I hear a noise, and the other day, it started doing the same thing again for a second, but I just got the plunger and did it. Other than that, it’s okay. It made everything much better. I was able to wash and do my dishes, and things ran smoother. I was satisfied with my experience.
I will recommend American Home Shield. It’s a good service, but the only thing I don’t like is that I have to pay a monthly fee, and then I have to pay the $75 when the contractor comes out. Sometimes, they can come in and do something for two or three minutes, then you pay $75 no matter what. But in the long run, it’s worth it if it’s on something large like a air conditioning. So overall, if you can afford American Home Shield, then go for it.

It took a couple of days for someone to respond. I wasn’t sure how quickly the turnaround was supposed to be. But then when the contractor came out, he was really polite and he took care of the problem. I didn’t have any issues with it.
However, when I filed a claim for the air conditioner, the gentleman that came out felt like it was not something that I should’ve filed a claim for. He seemed like he was a little bit upset. I felt like I was wasting his time. The first thing he noticed when he walked in the house was that the house was cool. He said, “This house is cold. Doesn’t seem like your air conditioner’s having any problems.” I said, “Someone told me that my motor was about to have a problem. That’s why I’m having it checked out.”
What happened was I had some service done on my air conditioner prior to having American Home Shield. And that person told me that we potentially should be replacing the blower in our unit. And that’s what I was calling AHS for. I thought there was an issue with our blower. He also said he had a concern with mold. I mentioned that to the guy that AHS sent, and the guy snapped back and he said he’s not a mold person. I’m like, “Whatever, sorry.” But as far as the motor goes, he said that the motor was fine. And then he went on the whole spiel that the other guy was just probably telling me this stuff because he wanted to sell me a new AC unit, which is probably true. But after talking to him a bit, he seemed to mellow out a little bit.

American Home Shield sent Total Air Care to service our request on our AC that was leaking. We noticed water was drifting underneath in the closet. It happened about twice because it was leaking. And then the guy came and he acted like it just needed Freon. He added Freon to the system and said it would stop the leak, and it didn’t. Also, AHS did not cover that Freon. We had to pay out-of-pocket for that. And then, I noticed it was still leaking a few days later.
Another guy came and he said, “You know, for that new one. Usually, it doesn't leak that soon.” And then, he also said that maybe the vent needed to be cleaned off, and that was what he did. He just brushed it off with a brush. And he told my husband what he could do to pipe it up so everything would flow the way it should be flowing. He said we could put some paint down so it doesn't mold. He was kinda helpful in that regard. But it's still leaking and my husband is working on getting the plumbing so it will drain right.
We're fairly new in this house, so the whole AC thing is really new to us. So, I don't know if we were getting the runaround. My husband is in the middle of trying to fix the AC still. The second person was very talkative and seemed nice. He was very knowledgeable. The first one they sent out was not. He should have been honest with us. And he should have fixed it, so it wouldn't leak. I said, “That's the whole reason why we called you and you're just telling us it's gonna continue the leak.”

I had been a little hesitant 'cause there have been some mixed reviews about them on Yelp, but that was the only company that American Home Shield sent me so I went ahead and did it and I'm very happy I did. MMAB Appliances Services came for the fridge and they replaced the motor as well. I also requested for the ice maker to be fixed. I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and I didn’t have any problems with the website. I was in and out in less than five minutes. I was able to click what I needed to do and it was done. I received an email saying that I was gonna get an answer within 24 hours. In the beginning, we had some issues in scheduling. My schedule didn’t work for them but that was the first time that I wasn't at home during their working hours.
The actual person who came to the house was very good and I don't have any complaints about him. He was fast, very friendly and did his job. They had to come a second time because the ice maker was not working. It was the fridge that wasn't working, so I couldn't store anything for a few days until they were able to come but once they fixed the issue, I was able to cook at home and store my food.

We’ve had American Home Shield for years and it's great to have them. Getting in touch with them is very easy. Recently we lost air in half our house. United Air Temp came, and they realized that it needed a part and that we would have to wait. Unfortunately, it was Memorial weekend so we waited a week in the heat. But they came back and found that that there was a leak in the Freon, and they fixed it. Submitting claims always comes from them. If there are other things that we want that the insurance doesn’t pay for, we pay for it. But it is definitely something that they take care of. They’re very polite and they couldn’t be nicer. If a part has to be ordered, they tell you it’s gonna be x-amount of time, and it’s very accurate. We can’t recommend them highly enough.

On our first year with American Home Shield, when we first moved here, we had an AC issue and I had to call five times because it was hot. It wasn’t the same day but that was not acceptable when you live in Las Vegas. It gets to be 118 degrees in temperature here, so in those cases, they need to respond within a two to four-hour window. When the ice maker started leaking, it flooded our whole kitchen. The machine itself was broken, so AHS had to replace the whole ice maker. The contractor had to leave, order the unit and then come back with it. So, it’s perfectly fine now.

We had the AC unit checked up in preparation for the warm summer. American Home Shield told me that to properly inspect the AC unit, the outside temperature had to be at least 70 degrees. So, they're very good about explaining that and coordinating the appointment. The tech was professional and very knowledgeable. He gave me some pointers even when I didn't even ask for it. He answered my questions, and he was very courteous. He used my hose and properly put it away. He even made sure there was no standing water in the hose, which I never would even do that myself. I was very satisfied with my experience.
Overall, I would totally recommend American Home Shield to any first-time homebuyer. It is very helpful and there is less stress when things break down at the last moment. Being a first-time homebuyer, it is also important that these people who come out for service educate you. They give you pointers on how to take care of your appliance or your furnace or things to watch out for, and things to do and not to do.

Requested AHS to send a tech on 5/29. Island Breeze was identified. Their tech finally showed up on June 3. I received an email from Island Breeze a week later on June 10 with what items were not covered. No details were provided regarding what work had to be done, what parts would be replaced, and no parts info was provided. When I requested additional info (both via phone msg and via email, no response was received and none received to date!). The company is too busy to want to even provide service. I reached out to AHS for details, and they stated that they would email the details (only stated that evaporator coil needed to be changed). Guess what, no email received to date.
When I spoke with them again today, they stated they would "look in to it". It has been 30 days without AC. It is 101F outside and 85+F indoors. No care in the world from AHS or Shonda **. I even had an independent AC guy come in. He informed me that the the evaporator coil for our unit had been discontinued, and that the use of a different coil would ruin the unit within 6 months. No surprise that Island Breeze or AHS did not want to provide details!! I have asked for a payout, and have been told that no work can be done until AHS calls back. This is a company that needs to learn how to "do" customer service. Very poor service all the way around.

Despite calling multiple times over the weekend, they did not even start to try to schedule my appointment until Monday. They set me up with a contractor that scheduled me for the following Friday. After reaching out again they claimed that they would have another contractor come the following day (Tuesday). No one reached out, and I had to call again to schedule an appointment for Wednesday. When I tried to call and tell them the time frame that would work they didn't answer the phone so I missed the contractor by 15 minutes. The technicians do not have phones or any way of directly contacting them. I call them again and they say I have to wait 24-48 hours to have another appointment scheduled.
There is no reason that I am paying a lot of money every month and paid $100 5 days ago, to not have had someone come evaluate my HVAC yet. If I had not had this scam of a home warranty company I would have been better off and wouldn't be suffering through 100 degree heat. Gettysburg Plumbing came out quickly for our water heater thermostat that went out. It was somewhere between 24 and 48 hours. They replaced the thermostat. It was very fast. I like this contractor. The water heater thermostat is so far, so good. Fortunately, the thermostat must be a fairly common part. They had it on their truck. I wasn't even home at the time of the repair. They called me, they did their job, and they were gone within an hour.
I usually file my claims with American Home Shield over the phone. It's easier to do it over the phone. There have been some times when I've used them on other things, and I wanna try and see if I could get a particular repair person. When you do it online, you don't really get that option. They just assign it. With some of the appliances, I've preferred Sears repair to another repair. If you do it online, you can't make that request. But if you're talking to a person, sometimes you can say, "This company came out and they fixed the washing machine, but I guess they had dirty or something, they left a stain on the carpet. But I've never had this problem with Sears. I would like to have Sears if it's an option." So, you can do that with the phone request.
I've had American Home Shield now for over 10 years, and I think they've cut back their benefits some. With the water heater or major appliances, they used to be, "We'll replace it with a comparable unit." And now, they limit it to, "We'll pay up to $3,000." That's a big difference because a water heater can be a lot more than that. So, it doesn't pay as much as what they used to. I think it used to be a better deal. But overall, it's still a good deal. AHS is reasonably priced. It's about 69 and something a month right now. I have three air conditioning units in my house. When I tried doing it through an individual HVAC company, it was almost this expensive just to cover those units. It's AHS that covers all. And mine includes some pool coverage in that 69. So, it's a fair price for what you're getting.

Filing a claim is easy, and I really like the fact that you can now pick and choose from the vendors rather than them deciding one for you. We used a couple of vendors for the air conditioner and they've always done a good job. But A-US Air is one of the best. They came out last year and they replaced one of our air conditioners. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable on what he had to do. He went around and tested everything. However, I do wish that American Home Shield would cover the whole service call because when I did Freon, I had to pay 45 more dollars for him to put it in. That doesn’t seem right but that’s okay. It didn't hurt me, but I shouldn’t have to pay anymore for Freon. Other than that, everything else seemed to be pretty good.

My air conditioner was not going through and putting out enough air. There are sectors in the house that were not cooling properly, so I went online and used the web-based product to go through to schedule some service, and the service place almost immediately came across. In fact, we just received a notification they’ll be contacting shortly. It was quick and expeditious and the contractor was awesome. He went up in the attic to make sure that there was something not disconnected with the heating and air conditioning system. He went through, put all the gauges onto the cooling system and could not find anything wrong. It’s like getting the check engine light on your car, taking it to the dealership, and there’s no check engine light. The contractor said the ac AC nine years old and the unit may do things like this, but it was good to go through it and have a professional take a look. All in all, the whole process was good.
Good Morning Ron,
Your feedback is more than appreciated. We are glad to hear about your experience and the repairs that are complete.

I had an air conditioning issue and I was told by AHS after getting in touch with them online that I would be notified within 48 hours, and I was notified within 15 minutes. I had to pay for Freon. Apparently, there's a leak someplace. The contractor said he was gonna put some stop leak in it. But I don't know if he did because I didn't see him. My frustration is that I understand the warranty is to make me whole, not unjustly enriched.
The Freons are all expensive, and insurance company only pays a minute portion of it. So I had to pay over $400 for Freon in addition to my $100 service fee. But if they didn't do anything to go up and look for the leak or address the leak or figure out where it's coming from, I kinda wasted 500 bucks. The ac only worked fine for 3 days. I was a mechanic for many, many years. I know how things work. But it's 500 bucks to have them come out again and I can't afford it. But AHS also had my ac fixed before. It was just a controller and that was not an issue. The contractor was in and out quick. It cost me 100 bucks and that was done. So I've had two instances to use AHS. One was fantastic and one was disappointing.
Rupert,

I had a refrigerator that was not maintaining temperature. After my wife submitted the claim, the person had made some calls and there was a delay of a few days for his response. They had contacted some other company and I got a notice that they were to come out several days later. I told them that was unacceptable ‘cause I didn’t have any back-up refrigeration. Then they found another source.
The contractor came out and discovered that the defrosting wasn’t operative. From there, he ordered some parts to repair it. Fortunately, he was able to defrost the refrigerator. The operation of the refrigerator was able to maintain for a few days in the interim of getting the parts. I had the parts drop-shipped to my home and I gave the contractor a call. He came out a few days later, replaced the parts, and it got back up and running. When he returned, it did prove out that things were faulty because it was starting to build up again. So if I didn’t get the repair parts, the problem definitely would have re-occurred. I was very satisfied with that call.
However, I did have a letter of complaint that went to American Home Shield. I mailed it last Saturday. It has to do with a subsequent call after this refrigerator. I had a plumbing issue with a gas line and I’ve written them a very detailed letter of how dissatisfied I was with the individual that they sent out. He came out and started to attack all the other issues of my plumbing. I had a gas leak and he started to criticize all these other issues that were gonna cost $600 or $700 to repair and not looking to resolve the gas leak the first visit. He came out ill-equipped. He didn’t have an air compressor to perform the test. So he was going to come back the second day, and he never did. He never called.
Then I got a call from American Home Shield that it was gonna be $1,500 or $1,600 for something that was not even addressing my initial problem. American Home Shield was gonna refuse the coverage because they were saying this particular element wasn’t up to code. We didn’t even know if that element was the problem. He didn’t perform the troubleshooting. So I did not feel comfortable with this whole situation. I tried to contact American Home Shield’s authorization group, and they said that I had to be a technician in order to make contact. With this gas leak, I was without gas to the home. I had kids visiting and I have out-of-town company, and it was not good timing in that regard.
I just didn’t feel comfortable so I called another licensed plumber. That particular licensed plumber came out with the proper equipment. We were able to detect the gas leak under the house which should have been covered. I was denied coverage for that based on the first technician’s judgment. I spent well over $1,000 of my own money to resolve my problem.
I’ve been a customer of American Home Shield for about 12 years. I’ve always been very satisfied with pretty much everything. But I just didn’t have a warm, fuzzy feeling about this first individual that they sent out. I’m hoping that somebody takes a look at that claim because I was not at all satisfied with the way they handled, and I had no input to that. It was like up to the technician’s viewpoint, and that was it. As it turned out, the second group of people that I had come out discovered that it was nowhere near that area of his concern and what he thought was gonna the problem. It was a totally different issue. That first price of $1,500 or $1,600 didn’t even include any repairs 'cause we didn’t even know what to repair. This bill from the first party could’ve gone well over $2,000 and not going to be covered by American Home Shield.
Good afternoon Michael,

American Home Shield’s contractor came to service my air conditioner because it was leaking water on the inside. Then I did another claim because my air conditioner stopped working and they did an expedited order. However, they couldn't get out to me until Saturday afternoon. When they came, they determined that the air-conditioning unit was working and it was electrical. So, I had to call back and set up another appointment to have an electrician come out. The electrician came out and everything was working. Two days later, the pan was leaking water again. So, I don’t know what was done or anything to that nature. It’s starting to be frustrating.
The first leakage has caused damage to my flooring that I had to lift my carpet up. I had to file home insurance and that was $2,500 for the deductible. Now, it has caused more damage to my flooring. At first, it was just in my hallway downstairs with the inside unit. Now, it is all the way through my whole downstairs. I have to rip up all of my carpet and get new flooring.
When I called American Home Shield to submit a claim, I spoke to their representative and she was fantastic. I got off the phone first and someone called me back. The lady said they were sending someone out but they didn’t have anyone who could come out until Saturday, which was in a week. My floor has been damaged because I couldn’t turn my air off since I have a five-month old grandchild in the house. I turned the air off and went from Wednesday to Saturday without any air. Then, it got worse and my grandbaby had heat rash. I had to take her to the emergency room. I understand that people are constantly saying that they understand your concern but they don’t understand because they're not in this situation.
Home ownership is a lot and you gotta be prepared, for which I am. That’s why I have my warranty but for expedited services and emergency situations, I would hope that we can get back to where in an emergency, in 24 hours, someone needs to be out there just to see what’s going on. Also, it was aggravating that when a lady called me this Saturday to set my appointment, no one from American Home Shield called me back. I was in the middle of a conversation, she hung up on me, and never decided to call back. Nevertheless, American Home Shield is great.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. I apologize that the leak started again. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. If the issue has not been resolved, please enter a Recall through your online account or through the automated system at 800-776-4663 for the technician to return to assess the issue. We had an air conditioner problem and my wife submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Thus far, the contractors we've had have always been very good. They contractors who came for the AC had to replace the fan motor on the outside unit. They told me they were gonna order one then went to the warehouse and called me back the same day and they said they have it. Since they replaced the motor, the AC has been working great.

I really appreciate the fact that American Home Shield has gracious coverage and I'm very happy to have it. Recently, I had an issue with my washer and I submitted a claim online. I’ve been successful with the online process and it’s been a good feature. I can just get online and request the service, then I get a phone call within 24 hours. The contractor who came out was nice and since the repair, the washer has been working excellently. Each of the wonderful people that have come here have always been special. They’re hardworking people and they don’t expect a lot of things sometimes. I even prepared lobster for one gentleman one day and he said he'd never been treated like that. So, it was nice to have the interaction and to be kind to the people who come. It’s a pleasure to have them all and I am grateful to be a part of this community.

I send my claims to American Home Shield online and their process seems pretty straightforward. Their contractors have been very good. They know what they’re doing. They identify the problem and resolve it. The warranty that I have is worth the money. It has worked for us on a couple of things.
