I had a problem with my water pressure regulator. I filed a claim over the phone with American Home Shield and their reps were great. They were able to get a contractor out in a couple of hours. The contractor was good. But they said that the problem I had for my water pressure regulator requires some plumbing and I have to pay from my pocket, which I’m not happy about.

AHS sent Doctor Cool to do some repairs and the experience was one of the better ones I've had. I did the claim online and I like the fact that I can pick up a contractor or the person to fix it. One of my first times submitting a claim, I called them and it went well. It was smooth. There were no hiccups. I just gave the contractor a brief explanation on what was going on, and they went right to work.
Good Morning Adrian,
Your feedback is more than appreciated. We are glad to hear about your experience and the repairs that are complete.

I called American Home Shield when some sort of water heater sensor was causing the pilot light to go out and not restart. They sent this information out to their people and then they called me within a 24-hour period. They told me that they would call me on a Monday and set a schedule for a time that they could come out. Then the technician came out and looked at my water heater. He was genuinely nice. My water heater seemed a little overwhelming to him, and there was a lot of extra gadgets on it. He didn’t really know what those gadgets were for. The sensor started when he was here, but then it went out again. So the situation wasn’t really resolved. I still am taking the shower with cold water.
The technician said that I had to call American Home Shield because they don’t cover the sensor, which is weird because I went through my warranty before and they actually replaced the sensor. It seems like they’ve changed what’s covered and what’s not covered, and what they’ll do and what they won’t do. American Home Shield has changed a lot of the things that they used to cover, and they’re getting to be more expensive. Also, the quality of people that they are contracted with is less than desirable.

The reps at American Home Shield are very good, very kind, and patient. Their contractor were very professional, speedy, and kind as well. I've had American Home Shield for 15 years and I'm quite satisfied with them. When I had some repairs done to my stove because I couldn't read the panel anymore, the tech who came out couldn't fix it. So, he put it in for replacement, and they sent me the information. But the one that I want right now is not in stock, so I’m waiting for it to come up.

I had a wall oven that wasn’t working and submitting the claim was easy. We had a gentleman come and look at the unit, and he said it was not repairable so a new unit was ordered which was fine. The other day, I got the delivery, but they didn’t take the old one because it was in the wall so now, I’m stuck with an extra oven that’s sitting in my garage. I need somebody to come and take it. We also had to install the oven ourselves. It shouldn’t have been difficult if information was given to me. If I would’ve known that it was just delivery people delivering it instead of the company that was delivering and installing it, it wouldn’t have been an issue. Luckily, my husband has an electrical background so he installed it. If not for him, we’d not have been able to. But I got an oven and I will definitely use American Home Shield again.

I filed a claim about three weeks ago in regards to our pool pump which wasn't working properly. When the contractor came down, he said it was a little fuse that went out which was an easy fix and then he fixed that. While he was there, he also told me that the casing on the filter is not gonna last a lot longer. He said that it has a little bit of leakage and that it was something that my AHS warranty covers. He took a couple of pictures of the model and then took off. That very same day, I submitted another claim for the casing of the filter. My husband was here when he came. He told me that the tech came and took pictures but he didn't come prepared with the casing. Apparently, he has to treat it as a whole new claim and submit an order for a part. But he was just here and he already knew exactly what we needed.
I called that afternoon and asked what was going on. I spoke to the tech and explained to him what I was gonna do in order to avoid this time. They're from San Diego so they only come down every Tuesday. I said, "I'm gonna be stuck waiting another week." The lady rep from Unified mentioned that they were gonna get the parts that Thursday and schedule the tech for Tuesday. This was two weeks ago, July the 9th. So, I took some time off from work to be there myself so I can speak to the tech. They told me they were going to be there between 8:00 and 12:00. It was around 11 o'clock already so I called to follow up and she told me that they didn't have a scheduled appointment.
She told me I wasn't scheduled that day. She also said that the parts didn't get ordered and they were not gonna come until that Thursday. I missed work without pay to be waiting for an appointment that never existed. But there was nothing much I could do so I waited. She scheduled me for Tuesday because they didn't show up on the 16th. So I waited on the 23rd. She said the same thing. I even got an email confirmation saying from 8:00 to 12:00. It's 11:40 and he hasn't shown up. So I called back and the rep said the parts didn't arrive. I asked why they didn't give a follow-up call. She said sorry and that they could schedule me in for next Tuesday. She turned around and said that my insurance provider hadn't provided or ordered the parts that were necessary to make the replacement. So here was my dilemma because I waited three weeks. I'm having mosquitoes in my backyard because of the water not working and the water being standstill. Now, it's becoming a little bit of a health issue and I have kids who are allergic to mosquitoes.
I had very similar issues with my previous insurance provider and that's why I came with American Home Shield. I've made other claims with AHS where it's been phenomenal but with this particular claim, the back and forth has been horrible. I blame 70% of fault to the provider but I also place the other percentage on AHS. I'm contracting this insurance company to help alleviate some of those stressors and I feel like it's caused me more stress and agony.

Our upstairs air conditioner wasn’t working. It was getting up to like 80 and 90 degrees up there. I went online for American Home Shield. The first guy would not get up in our crawl space and look at anything like we requested him to. So we called back and requested a different AC company, and they came out and they found the problem. We need a new duct up there. It looks like it was broken into four pieces somehow. The second guy was really, really good. He is supposed to be contacting American Home Shield to make sure that they will cover the work that is needed.

I don’t know where to begin with this review, if I could give this company negative stars I would. My ac stopped working on June 19, 2019. Multiple companies have come out and just added freon and went on their way, no update as to what the root of the problem was. Finally a week ago, and hundreds of dollars later, a company came out and said it was a leak and that I needed a new coil. As of now no news as to when they are going to order the part or fix my problem. I am a senior citizen, with high blood pressure, living in Miami (with over 100 degree weather) this is unacceptable. This company misrepresents itself, they are really wolves in sheep’s clothing. Shame on you American Home Shield, and for the people that work for you, I don’t know how you can sleep soundly at night knowing you are screwing over innocent, hard working people.

We are AHS customers for years and never used it for anything significant before. Recently our HVAC system stopped cooling properly. I paid my copay for technician visit. The repair plan is structured very tricky where some work is defined as modifications and not covered by insurance so we need to pay $2,500 out-of-pocket. Customer service explained me that the maximum amount they gonna pay is around $600 and there is no option to fix HVAC without me paying a lot of out-of-pocket. It’s totally useless to pay years for insurance and when something breaks, you fix it on your own dime.

We’ve been so busy so we haven’t had time to take care of it.

We've had American Home Shield since 2011, and the cost of it is getting really high. I feel like we pay so much and we hardly even use it. And then, I’d have to go through so many hoops to get stuff repaired. We’re thinking about going with someone else next year when our contract is up. Our most recent claim was for the front door of our oven that completely failed. Tri County Appliance came out and they were awesome. They fixed the issue in a timely manner. One of the parts was ordered but it was the wrong one, and I didn’t have an issue with that. They were very nice about. And once the part came in, they fixed everything, so everything worked perfectly fine.
As far as filing a claim with American Home Shield, some of it is a little confusing online. If something specific went wrong with the oven, they might come thinking that the oven doesn’t work. But it wasn’t the oven that doesn’t work, it was the door on the oven that was broken. So, when I called Anne, the lady representative, she was saying that they did not cover it. And I still have to pay the $75 service fee if this person comes. So, I had to call American Home Shield, and I had to stay on the line for so long. They did cover it. They cover any components of the oven. Their site needs to be more specific like a dropdown box. At least they could put other and let us explicitly explain what it is. And then, they could contact us through email and say, “Well, this isn’t covered per your plan.” American Home Shield should be explicit so we know what is covered and what’s not covered.

Original Review: July 13, 2019
My most recent claim experience with AHS was great. But I have had some issues with billing. The initial 49.99 payment to initiate my contract was taken out of my account. And then, AHS took it out again, which in turn, once I put the request in for that vendor to come out and take care of my issue with my air condition, they did a great job.
For some of the additional work that they had to do that AHS didn't cover, I had to pay them $438. And when I gave them the check, the check was presented to my account and cleared, but I had to pay an overdraft fee because AHS took another 49.99 out of my account when they shouldn't have. So, I called and spoke with several representatives. And from their end, it was not showing the initial 49.99 taken out of my account. And they told me that I had to fax over my bank statements, which I've tried on two different occasions. AHS wouldn't accept emails because I have a PDF of both of my bank statements showing that both charges were taken out of my account so that I can be reimbursed one of the charges. The customer service and reps had been horrible too.
Good afternoon Roy,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

Whenever I have problems, I go to the American Home Shield website and file a claim. The process is pretty quick. Usually, the turnaround time is 24 hours and they call, set up an appointment and the techs come out within that first 24 hours. The techs are always very professional and respectful of the home. If they come through the house, they take their shoes off. I'm happy with AHS coverage too. I've only used them a few times but they've come out, fix the problems and I only pay the service fee. My house is 13 years old now and it's probably time when I start having issues with some of my appliances so I'm glad that I have AHS. I would recommend them to anybody.

The air conditioning unit stopped working about a month or so. Since then, I’ve had a couple of glitches. I went out there to take a look at the unit, and it was shaking and vibrating more than what I’m familiar with it doing. But it was still pumping out cool air. American Home Shield answered promptly and took care of my information and my concerns, and so I’m just waiting for a callback from the unit. But so far, everything has been very good with the contractors that came out to do the different repairs as I needed. They were all very good, and very awesome.
I was getting phone calls and emails saying that I still owed American Home Shield. So I called them and they said that the notes were there and they would make sure the phone calls and emails would stop. But they continued on. I must have made over half a dozen calls, and every time, the person I spoke to saw the notes. They said it would just take some time to get it out of the system for it to stop. But it continued on for several months. And it finally stopped, so I’m not getting any more disturbing phone calls or emails that I’m delinquent. We got it worked out. I would recommend American Home Shield. I’m currently paying for two accounts with them, and I’m trying to talk my mom, my aunt and uncle into signing up with them as well because you never know when something is gonna happen.

I have been a member of American Home Shield for 10 years and the first time I need help with my air conditioner, they are making me use a vendor that is stealing $900 from me. I put a claim in and Freedom Heating and Cooling came out and said I would need 12 pounds of Freon at $100 a pound and that I would need to pay $600 for modifications for a total of $1800. Then American Home Shield contacted me with the cost and said I would need 9 pounds of Freon and said they could get the bill down to $1460. Right there, Freedom Heating and Cooling was trying to steal $300 from me. I requested a second opinion, which I paid for, and found out that I also didn't need the $600 of modifications. This was after 22 calls to American Home Shield. After the second vendor said he could fix the problem for $540, I was ecstatic. He reported this to AHS and AHS said they didn't care, I still needed to use the first vendor.
I am not going to pay an extra $900 for the same service. I have not had air for 6 weeks and I have four Siberian Huskies that have suffered greatly through this including kennel cough because of where I tried to board them. I also have mold growing in the house due to using an attic fan during wet conditions. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and I am still waiting to hear back from them on this issue. I have also sent two certified letters to the president of AHS and I have not hear anything back from them as well. I have logged over 30 phone calls to them and still no air.

We have had AHS as our home warranty service going on 6 years. We finally had to cancel the service because all aspects of this service have have consistently gone downhill. The first couple of service calls were taken care of in a timely fashion with competent service companies. The last service request was never done but they billed my credit card immediately for the service charge. After 3 phone calls to AHS to try to get my money back I had to contact Visa to get my credit.
They also began setting our appointments up with contractors from towns several hours away which made the scheduling not very timely as the companies were not going to be in this area sometimes for several days. We live in the second largest city in Ky. which made me wonder why with all the contractors here in town they were only in contract with small companies out of town. Lastly, I assume their call center was based overseas because the vast majority of representatives and I had trouble communicating which got increasingly frustrating each time I needed assistance. Five years ago I would have rated this company a 5, today 2 stars.

NOT HAPPY! I have been without AC for a week in Alabama. My repair request was submitted through the appropriate channels a week ago and a repair company was assigned. They came out and repaired one unit and put in the parts request for the other unit to AHS. AHS called me and said that they had approved the repair and that the repair co would be contacting me to set up the repair appt. When we contacted the repair co they said that they had not received anything from AHS. I have contacted AHS multiple times and have spent a long time on the phone trying to get information about the status of my repair. Each time I have called, I have to answer the same questions multiple times, for example - the address, my phone number, who they are talking to, etc, when they have already been given the information and they have my account pulled up on their screen.
Their representatives also speak broken English and are very difficult to understand. Once I have gone through the details, multiple times, they put me on hold for an extended period of time for "confirmation of details", when they return to the call each time they informed me that the parts have been ordered and that the repair company has been given the approval to repair the unit. When I have asked to speak to a supervisor or manager they refuse to transfer me and end the call.
After each conversation with AHS we call the repair company to see if they have been contacted by AHS and each they have confirmed that they have not received anything from AHS. I have been an AHS customer for over fourteen years. Most of my limited claims have been handle fairly efficiently, so I am very disappointed and angry to be treated in this manner. I want a straight answer about when my repairs will be completed. I should not have to call every day and waste time on the phone with a call center that does not know what they are doing. I am now waiting for a month for my refrigerator to be repaired, and I have been referred to 2 contractors who showed up once and never returned. I have spent over 6 hours on the phone and have nothing to show for it but discarded spoiled food. My dissatisfaction with American Home Shield is immense. I have over 60 contract years with this company... I deserve, anyone deserves, BETTER. Sadly, I wish I could say that this is a unique event. It is not.

About two hours ago a technician sent by American Home Shield (AHS) left our home after conducting what I observed to be an excellent inspection of a malfunctioning air conditioning unit. The technician, who I will not name as he told me he was afraid of getting in trouble at work, from American Group, viewed the floor air vents, the outside unit, electrical box, and the unit in the basement. I know this should be considered routine for such an inspection, but this was different. He noticed a little dust near the basement "furnace" and suggested that the area be kept dust free, and after removing the filter suggested using a filter that was thicker than the one installed presently in the unit.
When he returned from working on the outside unit he went through the photos to explain the damage to each part and what would have to be fixed. He told me that the "problems go back a long time." How long I asked? He said about a half a year. We moved in a couple of months ago. The model unit, a Lennox, he described as tough like a bullet, can last up to thirty years. Our unit is not that old but almost. He got the unit going again, not fully functioning, but the noise stopped and some cold air returning but said without the necessary repairs, many, it will make noise and malfunction again. With this he went to his truck to call American Home Shield for authorization of the work.
Just days before this the first technician sent by AHS conducted his inspection of the unit. My husband was home during this inspection. My husband described the technician as bringing up an "electrical surge from a storm" even before he looked at the unit. My daughter (18 yoa) watched the technician on his phone, facing away from the unit, for a large portion of the time he was outside. While the tech was downstairs he looked at the unit for less than two minutes my husband said. He did not inspect any inside parts of the unit. While he and my husband were downstairs (prior to looking at outside unit), the tech asked which home warranty plan we had, basic or deluxe.
My husband at that point, noticed a look of disappointment on the tech's face when he said basic. From there the tech went outside to that unit for about twenty-five minutes. The tech then proceeded to show my husband wires he described "were all fried up probably from an electrical storm," which he said home warranty companies log throughout the country "so they can blame the damage from the storms." Surges are not covered under our warranty. The technician then went to his truck to see if AHS would cover the repairs. He returned and told my husband that AHS would be calling to explain everything.
AHS called and declined authorization of the repairs because there was "an electrical surge" and to file a claim under our homeowners insurance. My husband requested a second evaluation. My husband, noting each technician sent by AHS is from a company that contracts with them, the AHS rep stated that the second tech would not know what the first tech determined.
The second tech remained in his truck for about 20 minutes. When he came to the door, he seemed a little embarrassed and had a hard time looking me in the eye. He held out his phone to me and asked if I wanted to talk to the authorization lady from AHS, they weren't going to pay for it. He had me on speaker phone and the AHS person identified herself as Kenyada (unknown spelling), said I was being recorded and told me that "the technician said the damage was due to a power surge so it is not covered." I told them the decision to deny was made in bad faith as the technician NEVER once said it was due to a power surge, instead that the damage had been progressively getting worse for at least half a year prior to this.
Kenyada at one point agrees that the damage had been progressively getting worse then says "and a power surge." I state this denial is in bad faith as based on an inaccurate representation of the tech's conclusion. At this point I tell her that I will be recording her as I will be writing a review and want to be as accurate as possible quoting her. I asked her when did the power surge occur? How long did it last? What storm occurred and where? She did not answer these questions, instead putting me on hold and after about 10-15 minutes the tech said he needed his phone to leave. I gave him his phone back. The call ended. AHS has not called me back.
I was informed by a professional plumber who installed a water heater (we paid for ourselves, not making a claim) in our new home two months ago, that his company used to contract with a home warranty company until on one job the plumber was on he had to request authorization and, as he had to seek authorization outside the presence of the homeowner, returned to speak with the homeowner. The phone was on speaker as the authorization person authorized only a repair, not a total replacement as the plumber had advised. The plumber had not switched the speaker off and the authorization person proceeded to advise the plumber to just put a band aid on the problem since the warranty was expiring in a couple of weeks.
The homeowner went ballistic and the home warranty company ended up paying for a new unit. The home warranty company contacted the plumber's company and demanded the plumber be fired. The plumber's company declined to do so as the replacement advised by the plumber was the correct thing to do and the company also declined to work any longer with the home warranty company. To this day, the plumber's company will not work with any home warranty company. In over 26 years that we have owned homes, we have had three home warranties. This is the second time I have used AHS, but this will be the last. I have had several small repairs authorized over the years but nothing substantial. Looking back, even with minor claims, any authorization process was done outside my hearing. I want to reiterate that the tech from American Group was extremely professional and thorough.

This Company will take care of the small appliances if it cannot be fixed at a percentage... However, when it comes to major work like A/C or furnace. They won’t pay for anything over just what needs fixing. Our A/C system went out at a cost of 10K and they only paid 25% of the cost of a 500 dollar coil and pan. They suck you in w/ advertising and then leave you high and dry. They make their money on the service call fee by fixing only one thing at a time on any major item and then waiting for a another thing to break so then can charge another service fee. Most deceitful advertising I have seen.

We started experiencing warm air blowing out of our upstairs air conditioner and called AHS for service. They sent out Central Air Conditioning and Heating who told us there was no issue despite leaking from the system in the attic and ice on the air conditioning coils. So we had to call a second time and have another person from this company come out who found an issue with the condenser and changed it but the problem persisted. We called an outside company to perform annual maintenance on our two air conditioners and he showed us where our upstairs unit was not getting enough power and confirmed that is was still leaking extensively. Again we contacted AHS who sent out their contractor once more who confirmed that the unit was not functioning correctly and stated that he could not fix it but would not report that to AHS. Upon contacting AHS they gave us the run around about checking into it and getting back to us but never did.
A week later we contacted AHS again and when the agent again stated he would look into and get back to us we requested to speak to a supervisor and were told they were experiencing a large volume of calls so it would not be possible. We asked for the supervisor to call us back and the agent stated he would “try” to inform him of the request. Meanwhile Central Air Conditioning and Heating will not return our calls nor as we are being told will they respond to AHS. With all this you would think they would contract with a reputable company or get us someone to come out who can accurately diagnose the issue but NO they get the worst of the worst who have horrible reviews across every platform. WE STILL NEED OUR AIR CONDITIONER FIXED!!!!

The contract company did not repair my appliance after 3 attempts and told me it was broken beyond repair, however they marked the work 'completed' with AHS. When I spoke to AHS, the only options available to me were 1) have the same company come out a 4th time or 2) pay another service fee for a different contractor to come out. When I asked about being refunded for my service call, of which the service was not completed, I was told that was not an option. When I asked about a replacement product for my broken one, I was told that is not an option. When I asked to elevate my case and speak with a supervisor, I was put on hold and then told to expect a call back in 1 hour (which I never received). I will not be renewing my warranty based on this experience.

I had water dripping from a pipe through the ceiling. I submitted a claim for repair to American Home Shield and found their site to be user-friendly. Their rep told me that their contractor would contact me 14 hours after I submit my claim. Home Service Corporation called me the following day and came out. Their tech couldn't do the job the first time as he had to get some parts. He came back the following week on a Tuesday and repaired the problem. However, there was a discrepancy in the square they cut out in my ceiling. They didn't repair that. I called them and Home Service Corporation's rep said that their techs told my wife they were gonna repair the square as long as he hadn't cut any more drywall.
However, when called again after 7 days, a lady from Home Service Corporation said that they don't repair that and I would have to call AHS and get somebody else out. She said that the rep whom I spoke to initially didn't say that they would fix the problem. If the first rep had just told me that they wouldn't fix the square, I wouldn’t even call them. But I was initially told that they’ll come out and fix it after seven days. I waited but then I was told something different. Home Service Corporation did quality work and everything is fine now but then if they don't do a service, then they should just say so. Even so, I've already recommended American Home Shield to my sister.

I was just having an electrical issue with my electrical box and one of the wall sockets. American Home Shield sent out Noland Harper and they were very time-conscientious and thorough. Everything is going good so far. I had other home warranties and when it came to the servicing, they always looked for an excuse to not cover an item. Back in my house in Texas, a rep told me to go to American home Shield. They work best for the consumers and the repair personnel.
I took his advice and I haven’t had any issues other than the coupon part. I had a coupon service request on file. I’ve had American Home Shield for a couple of years and whenever I choose to use it, it takes at least five phone calls to get it corrected in the system. I hate that part of it. Other than that, American Home Shield is the absolute best. They are really standing out beyond their competition and I praise that. I have recommended them to different people and they have service with them now.

We have a service contract with the HVAC company who told us that there was a leak. My husband called American Home Shield and Comfort First came out. The gentleman came up and said he didn't detect the leak, but he put some Freon in it and said if we have further problems to just call them back within 60 days. But the air conditioner still doesn't feel like it is cooling quite like it was. Everything has been good thus far with American Home Shield. I had a service call for my refrigerator which had an icing and water problem. I had an excellent experience with their rep. The contractor sent by AHS fixed the water dispenser problem. However, the tech said that they cannot try to fix the freezer as it could break the back and the part. He said that it had to be thawed for a couple of days and that things should be okay once I defrost the refrigerator for 48 hours.
He also said I have to open the doors, take everything out and that should rectify the problem. However, I don’t wanna defrost the freezer and refrigerator until I freeze up a lot of stuff, otherwise I’m gonna have leaks for 48 hours. I don’t know where to put the frozen food. Still, I'm satisfied with how they put the new part in for the water dispenser.

American Home Shield is working great for me so far. I don’t know what I would’ve done without it here in the last three weeks. I’m waiting on the air conditioner man to come right now. And I'm also still waiting for our plumbing issue to be taken care of. We have had company for the last three days and one of the flooring men is coming tonight to look at my bathroom floor to see if the floor has been messed up from the plumbing leak. The plumbing gentleman did a Seal Fix, and he left. And about four hours later, we had all been outside, came in, and we heard water leaking, and it was flooding at the back where he’d been. And I had just put in new wood floors back there. It was the 3rd of July and he did come back, but he didn’t get to come back until the 5th. We had turned off the water, stopped up the water, put pans on the floor and all that kind of stuff as best we could.
But he came back and he put a new toilet on completely. He said there was a crack that he had missed the first time. Other than that, he was good. He was very apologetic. And he said, “It’s just something that I thought I had it fixed with this new seal. It was the tank seal, not the toilet seal itself.” And he was apologetic that he was out of town when we discovered it four hours later after he’d been here, and he came right away Friday morning. He was here by 9 or 10 o’clock to try to rectify the issue. So, that’s been good.
When I submitted the claim with AHS, I did it by phone. The first phone call was easy. The second phone call was a little bit more difficult because it was checking the status of the claim. And the only thing was I got a man I couldn’t understand, but we finally got through it, and I was trying to make sure he understood that my floor was wet, and that if it ruined my new wood floor, I wanted to know what to do there, and he never could tell me what to do in that situation. Still, I love American Home Shield. I have four grandsons that live with me, and they’re not holy terrors but accidents happen, and we have been blessed with AHS. I appreciate the warranty people very much. It’s well-worth my dollars. And I just recommended it to three different people this month.

We’re not having the best experience with our claim with AHS right now. We’re not very happy and it’s been about three weeks. The contractors have been out three times and the fridge is still broken. So, nothing’s been done. It just seems like every time they come out, they seemed they fixed it, but it’s just the same issue all over again. It’s too cold. So, the first time, Levi from Appliance Solutions, fixed the thermistor in the refrigerator ‘cause it was getting down to 18 to 20 degrees, and obviously, a preferred temperature is around 38, 40 degrees. So, it’s freezing everything in the refrigerator.
And we didn’t really know what the freezer temp was 'cause it’s frozen, it’s hard to tell the difference between zero, which is preferred, to what it’s been at, which is about -12 to -7 degrees, which is burning all the food and they are freezer-burned. The guy came out twice, to fix the thermistor in the fridge, came out again, fixed the thermistor in the freezer, same issue, same problem, nothing fixed. So, the other guy came out and he just turned the icemaker off, and that did nothing. And we obviously were told again to wait three more days. The same issue, the fridge is still broken. But Levi was a very personable & a very nice guy. He did everything in his power to try to fix this with his knowledge.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

They did professional work and the hot water heater has been doing great since then. It's not leaking. The only thing I'm not happy with is every year, AHS keeps raising the price on me. I've had them going on seven years, and I've only had to use them twice. They need to try to keep their prices level instead of raising it every year. I'm a disabled veteran and the VA won't let me get a job. That cuts into people like me on a fixed income when we got a budget already set. And then, we get a price raise on something.

I called and spoke to a representative when I made the claim and it was wonderful. It was easy, fast, simple and there were no complications. The very first rep who came out was a wonderful guy. The contractor told me they would call before they come out, which he did because I was at work. So, I left work when he said he was en route. He was here a few minutes before I got here. He was very thorough and he did a good job. He just probably overlooked the fan but he was a pleasant man. The second guy said I didn't have to be here since my son was here. So, that worked out well. They came back really quick and since then, the AC unit has been cooling the house down.
A few of my neighbors had problems with their AC and I talked to other people whose AC was down. They didn't have the home insurance protection that I have so, theirs was gonna be a little over three grand just to get it up. To redo everything, it was over six grand out of pocket. I told them about AHS and gave them the information.

I called American Home Shield in the end of April and told them that the air conditioning wasn’t working. My claim experience was good. It’s just that they were awfully slow. My air conditioner went out, and I was without air for two months. American Home Shield called a company, and then, the company had to call me to schedule an appointment, and they had to come out five times and kept telling me my air conditioner was shot. They finally got a second opinion. And they came out and told me the same thing. And then, by the time they got it installed, it was July 1st, and I had no air conditioning. I live out in the desert. Other than that, they replaced the air conditioner. I paid $2100 to have it installed. They had to redo up in the attic. But I love the air conditioner. It’s really quiet and nice.
The contractors were all nice. The first ones who came out were really good. And then, the one that did the second opinion who American Home Shield decided to do it were really good, too. So, I was happy with everything. It was just awful in the heat. And I couldn't understand why it took two months. I’d have to make calls, and then, I never heard from American Home Shield, and then I called them, and there was somebody on the computer, looking it up to see what was going on, and they’d be contacting me again, so it just went on and on like that. Then, maybe two days later, it went out again with the same problem. He came back and he diagnosed that the compressor is bad. They need to replace the compressor in it and they said it would be a couple of days to get it approved by American Home Shield and then to get the part ordered.
Then, somehow, there was some kind of mess up that American Home Shield never got the report or the order. They came back out after I called Applied Air several times and got them back out there. They were working on it until I had to leave town on this past week but I told them to get everything going and then I’ll be back in town this coming Monday and see if it can't get fixed. The contractor's name was Jose and he was very sharp. He knew the types of locks and he got them done fast. They're pretty complicated locks and he knew his way around them really well. Everything's great.

I'm selling my home and the buyer inspected and found a couple of items. So I called American Home Shield to file a claim and explained my situation. The whole process was very easy and seamless. I got text and emails from them. Everything was right on the money as far as timing and communication. The attic fan wasn't working and the contractor diagnosed that it wasn't repairable. It needed to be replaced. So they were in communication with American Home Shield to give the authorization for them to order the fan and proceed with it. And it was pretty quick. The same day that American Home Shield got the request from them, they approved it. And then, I got an appointment scheduled, and they installed it this morning.
The people who came out were professional. They were very nice and courteous. The guy who came in today noticed that my house was ready for sale, and he spent a lot of time cleaning his feet before he even came in the house. These people pick up on those little things. It was a tremendous experience overall. I purchased a property in Florida and we got American Home Shield there as well.

We had a stoppage in the toilet, shower and master bath. The contractor came out and the bathroom clogged up again two days later. They came out again and they went through the washer outlet and the drainage in the bathroom. We went away on vacation and when we came back two days later, the washer was clogged up again. So this time, we found the main entrance to the main pipe and the contractor unclogged it through that. He found the backup and he seemed to have been able to clear it out completely. Everything has been working okay. I'm running my washer and everything is draining properly.
The contractor was great. He was as stymied as we were to what was happening and it took three tries. Both times, when he did it, the problem appeared to be solved but then, it reappeared. They were trying to get authorization to use the camera to see where the clog was and American Home Shield wouldn't authorize it because they couldn't find what the vent out front was but the guy searched some more and he found it. So, third try was the charm. AHS seemed to have gotten in contact with the company quickly and we got it solved.

We had a house that we moved in just repainted and all redone. The ductwork that was up in the ceiling was cleaned and then put back together after it was painted. We've been in the house four months and the paint started to stain originally, but then it got saturated and it turned into molding and deteriorated the drywall. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and the ductwork was looked at by the contractor. There has not been adequate amount of insulation around that and it caused condensation which then got into the drywall which caused that damage.
My wife was there with the contractor and she said it was a very good experience. The tech had to go in the attic, which was very hot, and then did the work. He was very professional and he explained to her the concern of what it was and how he was gonna repair that and what she needs to keep an eye on if there would be any further damage or anything. Since then, it has been really good.
We've used American Home Shield a few times and the individuals that came from their third-party contractors or the contractors that have come have all succeeded in fixing the issues. We've had very good success with the transitions, meaning that if we make a phone call, they're very quick to respond with a text or email and then able to get us the right contractors to come and repair the things on the first time.
Thank you for the feedback about the service issue regarding the ductwork.

My microwave died and I went online to get in touch with AHS and somebody came out really quickly. It had been a while ago and then they determined that it was dead and needed to be replaced. And then they had to send me an option. I said it was okay, and then they ordered it. The process took a few weeks. Some company was supposed to deliver it, and they were horrible. They gave me an eight-hour window to sit there to get a microwave, and I said that I wasn't doing that. It was ridiculous.
I found out where the distribution center was and so they were supposed to put it in “Will call” and I was gonna pick it up. And then, I got an automated call from them saying, “It’s being delivered tomorrow” even though I had not scheduled the delivery. So I called them back and they said, “Oh, no. We show that’s it in ‘Will call,’ and that you’re gonna come pick it up tomorrow.” And so I said, “Okay.” And then the next morning I got an automated call that said, “Your delivery will be at your home in 30 minutes.”
And so I called my daughter even though she’s not 18. I said, “Someone comes with a microwave. Just tell him to put it on the floor in the entryway, and tell him you’re 18 if they ask.” She’s 16 and they never asked. And then they just brought it even though I talked to them multiple times that I was gonna pick it up. That was by far, the worst part of the experience. But the microwave guys that came first and those that installed it were great. I just don’t understand why it had to be so difficult to get a microwave. It worked out okay because they gave it to my daughter and it was fine. But I shouldn’t have to waste so much time on something so stupid.

I'm very satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. My most recent claim was an AC repair. They set the claim up. The only thing is South Mississippi's heat index is 105 and when I got a generated email from the service person, it was like, "We would get with you within 24 to 72 hours." But, we were fortunate enough that I just went ahead and called Four Seasons. And they said they got a guy right then in our area. They were slammed, but because he was nearby, he could come on by. So, they were gracious enough to get on out, get us repaired, and get us back up and going. So, we really appreciate them with a full schedule making time to get us going.
The tech that came out was super nice. And he asked me if I checked the breakers, so I told him that was the first thing I did and made sure that all of that was good. I've got background in construction. So, I know a little bit about HVAC. And so, he said, "Okay, great. Because you'd be surprised, sometimes, we come out, it's just the breakers." He pulled off the cover, and tested the capacitor. He said I had a bad capacitor and he changed it out within just a short amount of time. He was in and out.
We are glad to hear about the contractor that serviced your air conditioner system. It is our goal to provide each customer with the best experience.

I thought our dishwasher stopped completely. We’re products of the hurricane, and we’re not living in the house right now. But hopefully, either next month or in the month after, we’ll get back in. And I thought it would be a good thing if that dishwasher worked. So, I made a service request online with American Home Shield and the representative was very nice. A service guy from Sears came out to help us. And he came promptly as he said he would. He asked me how old the dishwasher is and what it does not do. I told him it doesn’t work. When he told me to show him what I do, I said, “Well, I push this button, and I push this button.” He then asked if I pushed the on button and I said I did not. He said, “Well, I hear something working now since you pressed the on button.” And I don’t hear well as and I said, “My goodness.” Still, he said, “Please don’t feel badly. I make a lot of service calls, and that happens routinely.” So, I thanked him.
I’ve never had a complaint with American Home Shield. Each and every time we’ve asked for a work order, it’s been done. The agents that they contract with contact us to determine the time is verified. Most cases, I ask them to call a few minutes before they come, and they do. And they’re very neat, very clean, and very polite.

And so, he would contact me when it was being shipped, but I haven't heard back from them at all. But I've had good luck with AHS every time. The dryer is not heating up like it should. It takes two or three times for it to dry a load of clothes. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and they told me I would hear from the contractors in 48 hours. I filed the claim on a Sunday and True Vine Appliance Repair was out in a couple of days. The tech just kind of ran it and said it was fine. He called their supervisor and did something else. But it really didn’t do anything and the dryer is still doing the same thing. We also had the air conditioning checked out within a couple of days and we were charged an additional charge, we’re guessing for Freon, but instead it was overcharged. We wouldn’t have added Freon because that means it has too much. My husband was supposed to American Home Shield back about those. I don’t feel like anything was ever done.

I was very happy with the American Home Shield rep that I dealt with over the phone. I filed a claim for the oven and the contractor came out quickly. They came out twice. Once to diagnose the oven and then the second time to replace it. The first guy who diagnosed it said that he didn’t have to come out a second time. He said that he didn’t know if they could find the part that we needed because it was an old oven. I also asked if if we could still use it and he said it was safe to use it. But he came back and told me not to use it because he he did a little more testing on it and said that it was heating too high. I’ve never had a guy leave and come back to check out one more thing before he could determine if it was safe to use or not. I was really impressed with that and I appreciated it. And now, the new oven is working great.

Made a service request for plumbing problem. The assigned company came out and assessed the problem but said they would have to get approval before making repairs and would call to set up an appointment once approved. I then received a call from American Home a couple hours after the vendor left and they said the work order was switched to a new vendor and I needed to call and set up an appointment them.
Long story short, they wanted to charge me another $75 for the new vendor! Many phone calls later and being repeatedly denied speaking to a supervisor (I stayed on hold over an hour and no one came to the phone) I was told I would not be charged $75. They must get fired or a pay cut if a supervisor is needed because they absolutely will not allow you to speak with one. Despite assurances I would not be charged, I was charged another $75! More phone calls and after ugly arguments I was told the $75 charge would be taken off my account, it was not done. I am getting notices my account is past due and the policy will be cancelled if not paid. More phone calls and I was told again it would be taken off, but I still needed to pay the new $75 charge! They wanted me to pay it over the phone before the new credit was applied. Do not trust anything they assure you will be taken care of, because it will not be done.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

This company is a scam. We had our water heater go out and the first company they sent out couldn't do the job. They said they needed to send out another tech on that Friday. I took time off work to wait for the guy to fix the water heater and he just inspected it, told me he needed to go get some parts from the shop and never came back! I called the company and no one answered. I then called American Home Shield to see that they closed the ticket. THEY CLOSED THE TICKET WITH NO RESOLUTION!!! I was furious but told them the issue was not fixed so they offered to send another company. (The first company was the worst rated plumbing company in our area. Their solution was to send the second worst rated plumbing company out.)
So now my wife and I have been 3 weeks without hot water. The second company comes out and tells us the unit needs to be replaced. He leaves an estimate with us and goes back to his shop. We wait to hear from American Home Shield if they are going to authorize the replacement. One week goes by and I call them to see the status of our claim. THEY CLOSED THE TICKET AGAIN! At this point, I am irate and I call to find out what happened. They give me the same canned bs deflecting their mistakes and they need to get a hold of the plumbing company to get an official notice. This goes on for 5 weeks.
I call them daily and the excuse is always the same, the plumbing company hasn't answered their calls. I have three different representatives promise to call me back within 48 hours and not one time did they ever call me back. I had to chase them down. Finally they said they just needed a copy of the work estimate to release the funds in the form of a check to me. Well they didn't know that I had a copy of that so I sent it to them. I call the next day only to find out that magically the rules have changed and that isn't enough. So I have done everything and they kept moving their "requirements." SO I had to go three months without hot water to find out that they just weren't going to do anything for me. This company is god awful and should be shut down. DON'T BE LIKE ME AND BE STUCK WITH THIS AWFUL **!!!!
Oh my! Three months without any hot water is a total inconvenience and I truly apologize for that Ben. I just sent you an email in an effort to make sure your claim is resolved.

We have the 3x3 combo plan which I pay $84.58 dollars a month for. The refrigerator stopped cooling properly about 3 weeks ago so we called American Home Shield and the tech came the next day. I was told a part needed to be ordered and they were going to fix it. It has been almost 3 weeks!!! I called multiple times and I was promised status updates and call backs and received nothing!!! The final straw was my son ate something from the refrigerator and got sick, I called again and said I need the situation resolved and they told me there was nothing they can do.
I told them a family cannot live without a refrigerator and we pay a lot of money. I told them refund my payments for the last 2 years and I'll buy a new refrigerator today, of course that was unacceptable for them. They are supposed to fix the item within a reasonable amount of time or replace it. I think 2 and a half weeks is more than enough time especially without any ETA of when the refrigerator will be repaired. I feel like I was robbed of my hard earned money, it's a scam!!! The next stop is a complaint to the Attorney General.
I apologize for the inconvenience Jacob. I just sent you an email as I would like to follow up until the issue is resolved. I look forward to assisting you.

I used American Home Shield when purchasing my town home. They are terrible. They sent out a plumbing company to place a new water heater. The plumbers they used caused a significant amount of flooding when they improperly placed the water heater. It was on my second floor so I had damage to my first floor as well. A total nightmare! When I notified AHS first of all I couldn’t get anyone on the phone that was from the US. They clearly use call centers in other countries so communication was difficult. They said they are not responsible for secondary damage. It’s in the fine print of your contract! So they can send out the cheapest, worst contractors and not be responsible for the damage they.
I then had to have my toilet fixed and they tried to send out the SAME company! When I told them I refuse to have them they said that was the only company available. I had to be aggressive in order for them to find me another plumber. Terrible customer service and they use the cheapest contractors to save money - you get what you pay for. Never once did I get a follow up call from them regarding the flooding. I’ve always thought home warranties were a total scam and this experience just reinforced that!

Have had AHS warranty for years with only good things to say but how we've been treated in last 2 months is atrocious and we will be looking for new company. Our boiler started leaking 2 months ago and we reported to AHS, they sent out plumber who couldn't fix and finally an HVAC Co (Superior Energy) who said they would replace with cost of $3000 approx and AHS told us it was covered (in part but not all, we would be responsible for about $1000) so we waited and waited after multiple long calls to AHS was told Superior Energy was not responding to calls from AHS (and did not respond to our calls).
After several complaints and request to speak w/ supervisor at AHS which never happened, we were told that Superior Energy won't service us because my husband was hostile to them (He never was even at all hostile. In fact they came out for 5 min, brief and pleasant interaction and he called multiple x left message to call and never got call back). Finally new company came out and we are being told this repair was not covered now. So 2 months without hot water (we waited because they said it was covered) and now they say not covered. So my house is now 90, it feels like 96 outside and we have small children. They can't "find" someone to get out here so we have to call back tomorrow to see if they can find someone and then we would have the option to select our own contractor! It took me 30 seconds to find someone open 24hrs a day and can be out tomorrow! Their service is awful!!!!
They do not care about their clients and just want to take your money. I have now been on the phone with different people for 4 hours. They have put me on hold just to hang up on me twice, promised they would call me back, not understood what I am saying and still over 24 hrs later my AC is not fixed. But please be assured they are trying to find someone, just like they promised all day yesterday and like they said they would call me back. Updated on 07/16/2019: So I wrote a previous review about the service of this company and how they are not paying me back what they promise they will. One the representatives from AHS contacted me through my review and stated he would make sure “ERIKA” follows up on my issue. She states when I I spoke to her that it would take 24HRS. No one has contacted me. This conversation happened on the July 11th. I gave them a chance to help me solve this issue and they say one thing but they don’t go through with it. This company is a joke. Very disappointed how unprofessional they are.
Original Review: Well let me say this is the worst company when it comes to solving issues you have in your house. I have placed work orders online and in person. The jobs never gets done. The company they work with never show up on time for plumbing issues; they suppose to give you a time frame in which they going to show up and always they are late and they stay for 5 mins and they leave and their excuse is always, "is not under your contract."
Called AHS plenty of times and they excuse is “they shouldn’t say that. Did you call the company?” I’m like, "really you guys deal with them." They sent me another plumber and that was mad because he had to pick up the slack of work the other didn’t do and he told me I had to specify what I needed it to be done or else they couldn’t fix it. Placed a second work order. Same issue. I got tired of every day arguing with them and always coming to my property with a bad attitude. I called them to request a reimbursement (because is $75). Long hrs waiting.
Finally they said they would reimburse me this on March 2019. I’m still waiting for my reimbursement. Talked to many customer service people and 3 diff supervisors and they would lie to me saying, "you would get your money by this date." When it came to it I didn’t receive anything. Had to call again and then they would give me a different story. First they said they would reimburse me both work orders. Later on when I called to ask how come I haven’t received it a month later they said, "you're only getting 1 reimbursement of $75." I finally called to cancel my contract on May 14, 2019. The customer lady that took my request never canceled it and I got charged $52.99 on May 21, 2019.
Once I noticed they didn’t cancel my contract I called again and they hung up on me 4 times (their excuse is putting you on hold and then hanging up). Got tired of it and I requested to speak to a supervisor. They put me on a 1 hr hold. Finally spoke to the supervisor, cancelled my contract and stated that the company would reimburse me the money they took on May 21, 2019 since there’s a note from a representative in which I requested my account to be cancelled on May 14, 2019.
I asked about my other reimbursement and he said that I should have received it already. I told him that I didn’t. There’s nothing in my account. He said he would follow up with it and contact me (never received a call back). Later I receive an email saying that there is a cancellation fee of $52.99 in which is the total amount that they owe me. By that point I’m like whatever. They always find a loophole to everything. Today July 10, 2019 I receive an email stating that I owe a cancellation fee of $35 and that they would send me to collections if I don’t pay it.
Call them back. Spoke to Erika. I was in hold for 30 mins because she had to do some paperwork and then asks me to forward her the email I received to some email she provided me and that she would personally “keep up with it” and contact me in 24 hrs. I honestly don’t believe it. It’s so stressing calling them. If I were you I would go somewhere else. Btw I still have not received my other money. They are thieves. They are happy to take your money but when it comes to reimbursement they come up with excuses or they say they already paid you. I even told them, "I can show you my bank statements. I did not receive any money from you."
Good afternoon,

The delivery people were a little confusing because when they came out to install, they found that my water shut-off valve leaked, and they gave me a number to call back. I called that number back after I replaced the valve, and they told me they don’t do installs. So then, they gave me a number to call back. I called back in good faith and I got passed to six different people, and each one of them said, “I can't help you.” The last one said, “We don’t do installs,” and then referred me another 1-800 number. I called that number which turned out was GE, and they only do service. The next day, I called American Home Shield and they said, “That’s okay. They don’t do that.”
That was strange ‘cause the contract I had from the delivery of the dishwasher stated right on it that they would deliver, install and haul away the old one. AHS said they would set up with somebody else. The rep was very helpful. It was just confusing on my part as to why I got bounced around with the initial delivery service and then referred to General Electric who don’t do installs. Overall I always recommend them to people who are homeowners. I always rave about the fact that their service is good. Sometimes the contractors that they have are not too reliable, but they don’t have any control over that.

Updated on 07/12/2019: Second review for American Home Shield and the lack of timely service on the same issue. 16th day without AC. Received call from authorization department regarding repair but still at least a week out on repair. American Home Shield has expedited nothing, I’ve only been able to reach call centers, and when I’ve complained about the company they are using for repair, all they can say is sorry and "I understand your frustration." The only call I’ve received from AHS was to tell me how much out of pocket I needed to pay—they have time for that call. I received an email on this site from them when I wrote my first review but never heard back again. But, they did write they were “sorry and understood my frustration”. That statement and $1100 will get my AC fixed...one day.... maybe.
Original Review: This is our 14th day without air condition in 90+ degree heat. We had to wait four days before the company American Home Shield connected us with, Best Way Mechanical, could even look at our AC unit. We were told it would be a week before it could be repaired. American Home Shield could not get it expedited. All they did was indicate they would send an email to the repair company. I’ve called AHS almost every day and gotten the same answer. As of today, American Home Shield is reviewing the parts the contractor requested with no work date scheduled. This is the first and last time I will ever have a home warranty with AHS. I am much better off to save the monthly payment to American Home Shield and put it in a savings to use when I need it! Thanks for nothing, Sweating in SC.
I apologize for the inconvenience Laura. I can understand your frustration with not having a functioning a/c system. I just sent you an email as I would like to assist with a resolution.

American Home Shield sent On Point Service Repair Company because the dryer was not drying. They had to put a part in it. And then the oven in the kitchen, the thermostat was shut on. It stayed on. I had to trip the breaker to get the oven to go off. I scheduled the repair between our busyness, so that's a couple of days. But the contractors were pretty prompt. They were good all the way around. They saw what was wrong, came out with the parts and fixed the oven right. And then they had to come back on the dryer because they ordered the wrong part on it. But it was no biggie. Everything has been good.

American Home Shield sent a contractor who found out that I had galvanized pipes. They should have stopped, called their office, and then talked to me before they went any further. But what happened was they cut my galvanized pipe, jeopardizing all of my plumbing in my mobile home. So basically, they came back and said, “We’ll waive the $700 fee for the hot water heater, but it’s gonna take you $6,000 to redo your plumbing now.” I live in a mobile home, so the pipe is up in a cabinet. They jeopardized my flooring by cutting so many holes in the flooring on top of cutting the pipe.
But American Shield came forth and did the right thing. They got another company out here that did an incredible job. I didn't end up even paying the full $700, and I’m very happy with Alvarez Plumbing. In fact, I look forward to using them again. I was very surprised because it went three weeks without a hot water heater and I had gotten to the point where I had given up. But, no, they did come forth, and I highly respect American Shield for that.
But it will be nice if I can speak with people that speak English and speak to a supervisor when I ask for one. I never could get any further than the people answering the phone and a lot of them were hard to even understand. But other than that, I’m happy with what my results ended up being. I have a beautiful hot water heater. Alvarez Plumbing fixed the floor and the pipe. They informed me that I do need to redo my pipes, but I didn't have to do it just to get my hot water heater installed. So, it worked out. After all the phone calls it was a good thing. I was reading a lot of the reviews, and there's a lot of plumbing companies and stuff out there that are not doing what's good for American Home Shield, and they need to know that. I’m sure it’s gotta be difficult for them to try to find a reputable company. But Alvarez Plumbing, I would, by far, refer them to anyone.

We weren’t getting air like we normally do. It didn't seem like the AC unit was cooling off. American Home Shield offered to send someone out. It was a special deal to clean the air conditioner. We decided to do that ‘cause we were having trouble. When the guy form Prime Air came out, he did spend quite a bit of time taking it apart, cleaning it, and doing everything. But still, it didn’t really do anything. It just couldn't solve how things were. He had come back and said a part or the whole thing needed to be replaced. American Home Shield doesn’t get the air conditioner that we had before so they had to put a different one in.
The building inspectors showed up at our house one day. They said the air conditioner is gonna have to be moved because it was a much bigger unit. The size itself is a lot bigger than what we had there. It’s also high and the guy said it’s too close to the bottom of the stairs. They’re also saying it won’t get enough air and it'll raise our electric bill but we haven’t noticed that. My husband was a fire marshal for years and an inspector for all kinds of things like that. He said it’s doing a good job. He is very knowledgeable in this area and he thinks it’s still fine where it is, and I do too. But the city where we live makes other demands so Prime Air may have to come back out and move it to where the city says they want it moved. Overall, American Home Shield is very professional and is always on-time. We’re real happy with them.

My experience submitting my claims with American Home Shield has always been excellent. Sometimes, I do it online and sometimes, I do it over the phone. Online, the process is very easy. And when I call, the interaction with the claims representatives is second to none. The level of services are excellent. Every time I talk to somebody, I am given an expectation on time as to when to expect the contractors out. It's normally within 24 to 48 hours.
My most recent claim was for the air compressor that went out again. The contractor knocked on the door, identified himself, and let us know what he was here for. He’s cordial, professional, and he ran a really good service. I really like him. My experience exceeded all the expectations that I had. I've been an AHS customer for over 15 years. And they are second to none. I’ve always loved the service and the peace of mind of having the service. Knowing if anything goes wrong, I just call the number and AHS would send somebody out.

The washing machine broke and filing the claim for it was outstanding. Dealing with the guy and having the repair gone so quickly were great. I was very, very pleased. He made my washer work great so I have no complaints with that. The claim previous to the GE claim was a leaking pipe in my wall. We were losing 10,000 gallons a month out of the pipe coming from the hot water heater. I went through 3 different plumbers that came out here and not one of them could do the work because they didn’t have the right detector to find out where the pipe was leaking.
American Home Shield sent out this company called Fly Plumbing Contractors and they were like, “Oh, yeah. We can do this. No problem. In fact, we think the leak’s right here.” But I don’t think those people were qualified to do that job. They dug 9 holes in my kitchen and dining room’s hardwood floors. They took down two walls, the drywall and destroyed my cabinet and under the kitchen sink where they cut a hole. They bent the plumbing under there, so now, I don’t have any water pressure. They just left everything after they found and fixed the pipe leak. I have a billion pictures to prove what they did. I have giant trash bags filled with foundation and gravel in them all over the house. There’s so much dust in here that we had to actually leave for a while ‘cause it’s unbreathable. Plus, my husband has had cancer and right during all this stuff, his cancer came back.
Be careful who you let American Home Shield send to your house. I wish I would’ve investigated the plumbers that they sent here, and I would’ve never allowed this to happen. But the biggest thing is I kept calling their associates and the people that I talked to to set these things up. I don’t think they were listening. They did not understand the problem. They kept sending different plumbers out here that didn’t do excavating. The ones they sent just used a jackhammer on my entire house. It’s destroyed. We both have gotten hurt by falling into the holes and there’s gravel everywhere. It’s horrible. That was 3 months ago, and it’s just today that I finally was able to get some contractors in to repair all of this damage that I have.

I went online and got a service appointment through AHS and the folks came out. The appointment date was the week before July 4th. The contractor told me he had to order a logic board, but I never heard from him again. And then, I called Home Shield, and they got them on the phone and they said that they were waiting on the order to come in.
Then, when I called AHS a couple of days ago the lady said that they had released the man that came out to mine, but he hadn't ordered the part. So I asked what has been going on. Since a week before July I haven't been able to use my garage. So, it's been a menace. When I get home at night, I have to get out of the car in the yard and fumble my way into the house. The person is supposed to come today. He was supposed to come between 11:30 and 3:00. I'm not satisfied with the company that AHS contracted with, and that's a representation of them. And so, right now, I'm thinking next year when I get ready to renew, I might wanna rethink this. The other thing is that I live in Tallahassee, and these people may be coming from Tampa. I wish we had somebody local.

But the guy said he had to order the part and get permission to do the work and that took a couple of days. They fixed it fairly quickly once they got the part and gotten back in the house. They were great, very easy to deal with and explained everything. The air conditioner is definitely working. There's still something wrong with the downstairs though. It can't quite catch up. When you do need to talk to somebody live from American Home Shield, the wait time can be pretty lengthy. I tried to call in and talk with a rep, and I was on hold for close to 30 minutes before I got somebody. Still, the policy is pretty robust and it covers everything we need it to. So far, we’ve had two contractors that have come out, one for a washing machine repair and one for the air conditioner. The one for the AC was fantastic and professional. The one with the washing machine, I wasn’t super impressed. He tried to jerry-rig it the first time and that didn't hold, so they had to come out a second time. It didn't cost us any extra, but it was an inconvenience in terms of time. The air conditioner recently wasn’t blowing cold air, and Cote's Mechanical came out and changed the blower motor. I did that claim online because it happened in the middle of the night, and I was able to get on early in the morning and get that started before they got busy.

Original Review: July 11, 2019
Generally, I’ve been happy with American Home Shield. I just had a problem with the plumbing and they sent somebody right away. However, I’ve been having trouble with my air conditioner. It needs a new coil. I’ve had American Home Shield call out for the last couple of years, and each time, all of the Freon would drain out of the air conditioner and they kept patching up the coil. Finally, when a repairman came, he said, “Can’t keep patching it. It needs a new coil.” He said he put in for American Home Shield to arrange to get the new coil and that was in April. The temperature’s been over 90 degrees every day here in Florida. I’m in my 80s and I’m suffering from the heat. I keep staying with other people. I keep trying to stay out, in stores, just to keep cool. It’s a crazy way for me to be.
I keep calling American Home Shield and asking them when it’s gonna be done, and nobody calls back. Then they started saying something about disputing about the coil, and I said, “Well, you’re supposed to replace or repair. What am I paying for? You’re violating the contract.” They said someone will get back to me, and nobody ever gets back. People say, “Don’t ever go with them again,” and I say, “Except for this case, they’ve been wonderful.” Just for this particular case, I'm dissatisfied. My next step is just to call a lawyer and have a lawyer take care of it ‘cause I’m too old to fight. I'm not gonna call American Home Shield anymore. If they don’t resolve it, I’m going to have to get a lawyer and have a new air conditioner put in. There's some kind of a law about air conditioning and repairs and stuff for the elderly. The ads say if they can’t repair it, they replace it. But they're not repairing it. They're gonna need to do something for me.

Airboss came out last month and they checked my air condition. The guy checked on the outside because it was frosting up on the outside, and one guy came on the inside. And then, he pulled the filter out and said, “This is the problem. You need to change your filter more often.” I usually change it out once a month, but I have let it ride to two months this time around, and that was causing my problem. As a matter of fact, they came out twice, because I was concerned about something else, and the guy told me that the best thing to do was get a cleaner and to clean my coils. He explained to me how to do it, which I did. And everything’s ran fine after that. They were nice as well.
Recently, Total Air Care came out to look at my duct system, and after they came out one time, they never came back. Now, I just talked to a rep of AHS yesterday and I don’t think he was very knowledgeable about what was going on. He kept telling me the policy of if they come out and did do a diagnostic. I was explaining to the AHS rep that I want my money back because the guy had explained to me that they were coming back out here to tell me what area I need cut out, so they could get to it, but the guy never got back in touch with me. And I called them at least six times. One time, I got in touch with them and the guy said they'd make arrangements, but nothing happened.
So, I called AHS back, and they said they'd get in touch with them. They got in touch with them, but still, nothing happened. So, I called AHS back, because what I did, I went up there myself and I’ve seen where it had the leak at. Then I got some Flex Tape, I taped it up and that did the problem. The same thing he was gonna do. He was gonna cut into my drywall to tape that little area up. And I got up there with a ladder and did it without cutting anything out. They could’ve fixed the problem the first day. They didn’t even take time. He took a little ladder, looked up there two seconds, and then he came back down, and then he wrote up something. And then, he told me he'd come back, he'd get in touch with me, and they'd be back out here.

Since July the 4th, my freezer has not been working. American Home Shield got a guy out. He said it needed a new compressor. The home warranty said because the refrigerator was less than two years old, they’d have to send someone from LG out. So, they mailed the compressor and sent it to my house. It sat there for three weeks. The guy came out yesterday and said, “Oh, they sent the wrong compressor. We’ll have to send another one.” And the dryer’s out and the control board, and they can’t come back until August the 2nd. This is really hard for me because I’m presently working in another city right now. So, I will never buy an LG refrigerator again. And I only got that one because the other LG went out, and the warranty company had to replace it with that one.
I call American Home Shield to submit my claims. I like to call a person. Their representatives are good. I’ve had good luck with them. They tell me the contractors will call me within 24 hours. And then the contractor’s the one who sets up the appointment. The contractors kinda seem like they don’t know what to do because it’s protected under home warranty. Yesterday, I wanted to speak to someone from LG and the guy would not connect me with anyone. He said he couldn’t. I’m in Kansas City, and I had my daughter and a friend over there trying to get it fixed, and he was of no use. I still haven’t heard from anybody in LG. And it’s not the home warranty company's fault. The refrigerator’s less than two years old, so they have to deal with LG. The home warranty company couldn’t touch it because LG had to touch it. I’m really unhappy with LG company

AHS had Central Virginia Heating and Air Conditioning come out every time. Recently my AC stopped working. My initial diagnosis seemed to be that it was the exterior fan on the AC unit. And that was the case. So, they came over, popped in a new fan, and everything was working. They checked, made sure everything was good to go, and that was it. It was pretty straightforward.
And before that claim I had a HVAC guy who was already at the house because I submitted a spring saving cleaning thing. He said I needed to submit a ticket for him to repair an issue that he found. And so, while he was standing there, I pulled out my phone, submitted a new ticket and he received it within 15 minutes or so after I submitted it on the computer. That made it really easy. I’ve been very happy with the service and the interface was sufficient. I didn’t have any issues navigating. The warranty program of AHS seemed pretty hassle-free. I really like how the most recent claim that I put in didn’t require another amount being paid because it was correlated to the last one that I submitted. I really appreciated that.

American Home Shield is timely and sends out good professionals to help correct situations that arise in the home. Certified Heating & Air recently came out for an air conditioner not keeping up. It was a cooler day, so the guy didn’t really find anything that he could change at that point. He did go over the different tests that he ran with me, and just said that he wasn’t seeing anything. He did recommend a few things and kinda helped us with a little bit of cleaning of the outside unit so the air conditioner has been better. It’s still not keeping up exactly, but it’s not as bad as it was.
I’ve always had great experiences with Certified Heating & Air so I really liked the guy coming out and dealing with him. The only thing is it might be nice to be able to choose a contractor. We’ve had a bad experience with one in the past. Maybe, if you could make sure that you don’t get the same one, or if you’ve had a good experience with one in the past, you could choose that same one again. Or there could be at least a list of contractors that American Home Shield normally uses for a particular issue where you could put them in the order that you would like and American Home Shield could try to assign them that way.

American Home Shield is a good company. I've been with them for several years and I haven't switched because of the reliability and the service that they provide. I've had a lot of other friends that have had other home warranty companies, and they've always had some kind of a nightmare story. I have not had that with American Home Shield. Filing a claim has always been simple. American Home Shield has always put in the claim and identified the company within pretty much less than an hour, and they provide me the information to the company. If I wasn't able to call the company, the company does call me within the 24-hour allocated timeframe. I usually call them, and I always get an appointment faster that way.
The technician from Complete Pro was really good. The AC unit was not draining properly and he had to come out, blow out and maintain the AC unit. He had to re-tighten a drainage component that was not installed correctly. He was on top of it. He identified a couple of connectors that were burnt out due to age, and he replaced everything. The AC unit came back on. Within about a 24-hour period, the AC unit started faulting again and we called American Home Shield again for a repeat visit. When the tech from that AC unit company came out, he identified that the condenser unit had also failed, so he replaced it, and we have not had any issues so far.

AHS had someone come out to work on the electric water heater that was leaking water from it. I went on the American Home Shield website and just filled out a ticket. It was quick and easy. I got a confirmation that the ticket had been placed. And then, as soon as they assigned a company, I got a follow up email that said they would be coming out. The gal that called was pretty good and easy to work with.

American Home Shield replaced our furnace in January of 2018 with a company called Sundance. Then in about March of 2019, our furnace died. So, we called American Home Shield again and they sent out the same company, Sundance. Sundance came on three different occasions to check things out, order a part, come back, etcetera. They said they were done after two visits, yet we didn’t have any heat. It was only cold air. So, on their third time, the guy came out and said it was all done. However, we were still using our furnace a little and it was making a sound I could hear up in my house. It’s below us and I knew it wasn’t right.
So, I reached out again to American Home Shield after a few months and I told them that I had no confidence in this Sundance because the furnace was making a noise and I wanted somebody else to come out here. Sundance was horrible. Thankfully, AHS sent out a very good company, Anctil Heating and Cooling. I’m a Realtor, so I know all these companies and I really like Anctil. So, Anctil came out and discovered that the installation had not been correct in the first place. A condensate pipeline did not have the proper grade, so fluid was coming back down into our furnace. That was the sound I kept hearing and had we not gotten a decent HVAC company like Anctil out, it would have ruined a brand-new furnace. Anyhow, Anctil fixed it and I have total confidence that it was done right.
Other than that, the AHS online ordering service has not been easy for me. It’s cumbersome and sometimes, I just hit a dead-end with it. The instructions should be really clear on there, but it’s not and I can’t figure it out. They need to make how to order a service the front and center of the website because it’s not intuitive. And I’m not a total techie, but I typically know what I’m doing on the computer and I spend way too much time trying to figure out where to go when I order service online with AHS. So, I call them for my claims. But on that last one, I reached out to my AHS rep and explained it all to them, so they initiated that for me.
Despite that, I still recommend AHS often but I tell the truth and say that with AHS, you're not gonna get the best contractors necessarily because the best ones don't have to work with warranty companies. Also, there are often issues that we have to kinda revisit, which has happened many times, and the responsiveness of AHS has really been good. It’s just that once they send somebody out, it often takes more visits than you wish. And repairs always take longer than if I was calling up a contractor on my own. But then again, it’s the cost of a service call, so that’s the price I pay. All in all, AHS offers a good insurance policy and if something goes out on you, it’s worth the extra trouble that you have to go through with a home warranty company because it ends up being taken care of for just a copay.

I had a claim where American Home Shield sent us an appliance company, Vector Appliance. They were awesome. They responded really quickly and sent out the guy to check the appliance. He fixed it on the spot. He knew what was wrong and was able to repair it. He had the parts with him. He did his job and I was satisfied. He was really fast. However, the people from Fidelity Appliances who American Home Shield sent out just came and looked at my refrigerator and left. They didn’t do anything. They came in their own personal vehicle. It didn’t look like a company vehicle at all. I was told that they were supposed to call me ahead of time to let me know that they were on their way, but they just showed up at my door.
There was language barrier, too. They just came, pulled my refrigerator forward and looked at it. I don't know what they did behind there and I was trying to tell them what the whole purpose of us calling was. But they were diagnosing their own problem. I told them that was not what we called for. They said, “Oh, we'll just submit this to your home warranty company and they'll call you with their decision." They were out in less than five minutes. And I've read really bad reviews about this company. I've read a lot of people who have American Home Shield where American Home Shield sent out this company and they received the same experience I received.
We keep spending a lot of money to have our warranty in place so they can assist us with things that are wrong in our home and I'm surprised that American Home Shield still uses them. Fidelity Appliances has an F grade with the Better Business Bureau. We tried to switch appliance vendors but American Home Shield told us that that was the only appliance vendor in Las Vegas that could come to my house which was a lie. It was a terrible experience. I did let American Home Shield know about it and they said they appreciate me telling them, like just don’t let whoever know what I know about it. Also, when submitting claims, I prefer to speak to a live person who knows how to speak English clearly. I've had several calls where the language barrier was so hard to understand.

My air wasn’t working for three days, over the weekend. I called AHS Monday and they were able to send someone out on a Tuesday. I had to call to do a follow up, and only because that company uses text messaging system, and I didn’t receive the text. But when the technician visited my home, he was prompt. He called me and was there when he said he would be there. The technician was extremely nice and knowledgeable. He explained in detail what was going on with my system, what he would be doing, what he did, and recommended things that I should do just as far as the upkeep over the next year.
He didn’t expect for me to have any more issues ever. He asked me what I preferred as far as the service that he was providing. So he was very thorough. I liked him a lot. And even if I didn’t have the warranty, I would probably call him again. But since I do, AHS made it convenient, easy and affordable. The air conditioner is now working wonderfully.

It's very difficult to file a claim online. The computer website wouldn’t load properly. I had a previous claim that I did not get service on that I was charged for that I then had to pay for then wait to be refunded. I ended up having to call and talk to somebody and it was crazy. The company that the claim was sent to didn’t have my right phone number so they were trying to call me and I was trying to call them. They weren’t able to get in touch with me so they then put in a cancellation of the claim. When they did that, I was charged but it didn’t go through on my credit card and I didn’t know I was being charged ‘cause nobody had shown up. When I then called to make a new claim, they said that I had a past due amount so I had to pay. The refund came back and it didn’t take too long for that but I still had to pay for that before I could put in a new claim. The reps were very kind and professional but it was just the hassle of trying to get it all straight.
On that service call, I had my stovetop, my range, and my dishwasher. My dishwasher needed to be replaced and I ordered the dishwasher that I wanted. I live in a remote area and the company wouldn’t do installation so I had to cancel that one and order another one. They should be delivering my dishwasher today or tomorrow and American Home Shield is covering it.

I signed up a contract with American Home Shield (AHS) to provide home warranty service for a rental property in Sacramento, California. I chose the Combo Plan. I paid $39.95 per month and $100 flat fee per service request for covered items. I submitted a request to repair air-conditioning on 5/30/2019. I was charged $100 per contract for the out-of-pocket cost for this repair on 6/1/2019, and I was informed separately on the same day that Allright Mechanical would be the one coming to repair. On 6/4/2019 a technician from Allright Mechanical came to diagnose the problem, and I didn’t receive any communication initiated by either AHS or Allright Mechanical until three weeks later on 6/25/2019.
A heat wave hit the west coast during those three weeks, and the house was unbearably hot. The tenant gave me ultimatum to get the air-conditioning fixed. I called AHS more than a dozen times checking the status of my repair request, and the answers that I received were either (a) waiting for the authorization department, or (b) waiting for Allright Mechanical to submit the diagnosis report (but Allright Mechanical claimed that they had filed the report four times).
Without any commitment from AHS, I had no choice but hiring an air-conditioning technician by myself to get it repaired on 6/19/2019. I was charged $353, which includes $53 for a replacement part and 3 hours of labor (including 2-hour travel time since he lives at Ripon, California, 60 miles away), for a total of $353. We worked together before, and I know he is honest. That’s why I am willing to pay for his travel to get this repair done correctly.
AHS finally contacted me on 6/25/2019, 26 days after the initial service request was filed, and told me that I have to agree paying for routine maintenance first (which is not covered by the contract) before they can authorize the repair work (which is covered by the contract), and the cost of routine maintenance work is $1,050! The $1,050 is for the maintenance of blower motor assembly and the evaporator coil. The problem is: after reviewing the scope of work performed, it’s obvious that none of the routine maintenance work prescribed by AHS was performed by the technician that I hired to restore the air-conditioning service! In summary, here are the reasons that I give AHS a low rating:
(1) Misleading advertisement - “When a covered item breaks down, American Home Shield is here.” This is the slogan of an advertisement of AHS official website. It implies providing a prompt and timely service to their customers. However, leaving the client more than 26 days without air-conditioning service in the middle of hot summer is definitely not acceptable to anybody and contradictory to their advertisement. “We assign a pro.” is the slogan of another advertisement of AHS official website. Their unprofessional service has been described above and will be summarized below.
(2) Unprofessional services - None of the routine maintenance work prescribed by AHS was performed to restore the air-conditioning service. Therefore, I have to wonder if the $1,050 expensive, yet unnecessary, routine maintenance work prescribed by AHS is intentionally naive or unprofessional at the least.

My dryer was not working as it should have. There were still some things that were never addressed when it was serviced almost a year ago. So I called American Home Shield about it since I don't think that my dryer was completely fixed. They agreed to dispatch again. They sent me out a new repairperson and did not charge me for the repair. So this was a follow-up service and it was ultimately resolved. The contractor did a pretty good job. But what I love to have for it is a little more proactive on the front end. Sometimes, if you have a repair, American Home Shield would send you out a repair person, and that’s kinda where they conclude their work. They may converse with that person. They may agree to some repairs, but I don't think they follow-up terribly well sometimes.
The dryer situation took over a year to get resolved. And it has been resolved, but it took a lot of things on my end to contact American Home Shield. I had to remind them of this open item, and keep them focused on getting something fixed. So, even if I brought it to their attention and I would ask for a response, I would never get a response. I would have to follow up again after so many months.

I've used it twice already. I used it once for the free AC maintenance and I was pleased with that because they sent people that were certified and had really good ratings.
I also used it when the washer was not functioning properly. I have a front loader washer which would shut off and unlock after spinning twice when we start it. I put in the claim and American Home Shield sent someone from GE Appliances. The gentleman was very professional, very courteous, and was here on time. He diagnosed the issue right away. The hiccup was that when the locks for the washer was ordered, it didn’t have my unit number. That delayed the delivery until we were able to track it down. And the service gentleman was able to come in and do it right away after. I was very happy with the way that they acted and conducted themselves. The washer is perfectly working now.
I am glad to hear about your customer service experience and the central air system that was replaced. I hope you continue to enjoy your warranty with American Home Shield.

I went under one claim with American Home Shield, and I did it online. Their online process was easy. The contractor, Southeast Appliance, was within the area, so it took them 24 hours to come out. The contractor was working on a dishwasher and a washing machine. He had fixed the washing machine the same day he came out. He had the part we needed on the truck. But for the part for the dishwasher, he ordered it and he came back. He was just here today, and they sent him the wrong part. So he has to reorder it. And he said it'd be a day or two, and he'd call us and come back. He was excellent and it was a really good service.
Kenneth,

When I had a plumbing problem last March, I submitted a claim to AHS and I was disappointed with the contractor that came out at that time. I had ended up getting another plumber through AHS to come out and correct the situation. Recently, I had a flood in my kitchen and I had to stay in a hotel. And my air conditioning went out and the same contractors that I had a problem with previously told me that they would be here between 12:00 and 3:00.
I checked out of my hotel and I got here to my apartment about 2:00, and there was a note that the repairman had been out at 11:20. And that I had to wait until Monday before they came out. They also claimed that the appointment was between 11:00 and 3:00, but I had an email that said between 12:00 and 3:00. So, I was quite upset about that. But the repairman came out. He was great and he did a great job. As far as American Home Shield, they’ve been fine. I’ve had problems with the company that came out to service my appliances. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time. They don’t seem to cover a lot of things, but I’ve had it so long, I won’t discontinue it.

I tried to submit a claim with American Home Shield online but it didn't go through. I had to make the phone call and it was very simple. Within two to three weeks, it was not cooling again. They determined the evaporator coil needed to be replaced. That was what they did, and I’m cool again. And then they had to put another half a pound in the same unit the next month. I wasn’t happy with the guys that American Home Shield sent out to my house. It didn’t seem like the tech was very thorough. But every time I’ve called American Home Shield, the reps have been really very pleasant and nice. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

I've been with American Home Shield on and off. Before, it was about three years in a row, and then I shut down, then again joined them. It’s been a good experience, but this time, I got stuck. We’re still working on my refrigerator. The contractor came and said it's not repairable because it’s old and the part is not available. This refrigerator is $9,000 plus tax and installation, and AHS approved me only 2,900. I talked to the representative and they said that's their limit, so I don’t know what to do. I’ve been trying to shop around. I googled it and I went to a couple of stores, but none of the brands have my size of the fridge that is less than 9,000. I can live with any brand, but I cannot afford another 6,000 to put in. Still, American Home Shield is great.

When we had some very warm days here in Arizona, I noticed that I wasn’t getting any cool air out of the air conditioner. I filed a claim with American Home Shield on the phone and that was pretty easy. The first person who arrived was, I believe, the owner of Jungle Cat Heating and Cooling. He made a quick analysis and basically told me the primary thing that was wrong at that time. From the standpoint, I was very pleased. They even wanted to come the following day but I asked them to wait until the day after. So it was two days before they came out. Although I'm very pleased with what Jungle Cat has done for me so far, I'm not entirely pleased at the moment. I'm not convinced that my air conditioning system is quite working the way it should be. I have hesitated to call them again simply because it’s difficult to describe the problem that I'm experiencing.
I sort of gave them clues while the team was here replacing the condenser. But I got the impression that they were treating me like an old man who’s seeing things. I’m afraid that the problem that I think I'm seeing now may have led to burning out the compressor, which was previously the problem that was dealt with. So I'm not wanting to ignore it but I'm hesitating to call the same company again. I've dealt with another HVAC company in the past and I've developed a pretty good rapport with them. I'm thinking of just giving them a call, try to explain the problem that I think I'm seeing and have them tell me if I'm seeing things or not. Every time I call American Home Shield, it’s another $100 and then I have to wait and possibly deal with a new organization that has no background with me and no reason to trust what I'm saying.

I filed a claim with AHS for the garage door. Teddy's been out twice. He's very nice and professional. He seems to take care of it, and then it just starts right back up again. And it's never done that before. The garage door quit working, and he came out and fixed it. And then after he fixed it, it would start making this loud banging noise just as it was closing. So, I called, and he came out a second time and adjusted it. And it seemed to be working fine. And then, a day after he left, it started making that same banging noise again. The problem hasn't been solved.
When I originally submitted my claim, I called AHS. And their rep was fine. The first time, we've had to wait five days which was a bit of an inconvenience because we had to operate the door manually. But I just assumed that there was a big demand for the services. The technician has not been able to solve the problem yet, but the process seems to be working very well. When I call, they schedule the service and somebody comes out.
Your feedback is more than appreciated and I hope the garage door repairs get completed.

I had plumbing work done on a boiler and when the plumber came to turn the power off, he said that there were two switches that were not clamped and that they had to be clamped because it was dangerous. So I called for A&S Electric to inspect the box that I had. The electrician came and apparently, some work had been done here at the house and they had broken it but didn't tell me.
A&S Electric came and took pictures then they told me that they were gonna file to see if they could replace. I was surprised. I thought they were just gonna replace those two. They were like two big switches. But now, I know that they have to change the whole box because the clamps are kinda attached to the boxes. You can’t replace a little piece of it. They said they have to replace the whole box and that’s what happened. The inspector had to check the box before they approved the work and then they approved it after it was done. So all that happened and that was good for me as a homeowner. Everything is perfectly fine now.

I wanted updated items so I had to pay extra, but they were very friendly and did a great job. American Home Shield was helpful, though initially, they made a mistake. There were two items and by mistake, they issued only one order which created a mess. I had to call them four or five times and every time, there was a different representative. I had to keep explaining my situation again and again. Finally, they were able to resolve it. Also, they issued the second work order to a different company. I again had to call them to make sure it went to the same company because that way, I could get both things done at the same time. Overall they tried their best, but the representatives still need some training in order to make sure they understand the situation quickly.

I’m very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I am still having an issue with the air conditioning. What’s taking so long is they sent out repair people that don’t have any idea what they’re doing. The switch blew and the air conditioning guy said, “Oh, this is an electrical issue. You need an electrician. You need to call American Home Shield and tell them that I said it’s a problem with the electrical.” So I called American Home Shield. They said to let them talk to the contractor. They talked to the contractor and he said, “It’s an electrical issue. There’s nothing wrong the air conditioner. It’s fine.”
American Home Shield sent out an electrician and the electrician went, “What’s this guy talking about? It’s not an electrical issue, it’s the compressor.” So, they sent out another air conditioning guy ‘cause I wouldn’t let them send out the first one. I wanted someone new. The new guy said, “Oh. This has a heat pump, and it’s probably the compressor but I don’t work with heat pumps. You’re gonna have to get a Lennox certified dealer in here.”
The Lennox certified dealer who's the 4th guy now came in and said, “Oh, this is shorted. I can’t tell what caused it, but it might be from a power surge.” So, they declined my thing saying it was from a power surge. I said, “He didn’t say it was from a power surge. He says he couldn’t determine. It might be.” So, I talked to the contractor on the phone. He said, “I never said that.” I said, “Well, that’s what they’re saying you said.” They talked to him on the phone, and they came back and said, “No, he confirmed it.” I said, “I want a three-way with this contractor,” and they said they don’t do that. I said, “Well, someone needs to because this is not what he told me.” So, they called him back and he said, “Yeah, I did tell them that there isn’t any way I could be certain what it was.”
They said they needed it to be certain in order to complete the claim. They sent out a 5th person for a consult to see what the issue was. The 5th person said, “What are these people talking about? This is age-related. You need a new compressor. It’s normal wear and tear.” So now, I’m waiting since Saturday morning and I just got a call yesterday saying, “Oh, we got your claim through and we’re gonna process it. We’re ordering a new compressor but we don’t know when it’ll be in.” So right now, I've been experiencing over 90-degree weather in Chicago for two weeks with no air conditioning, and I still don’t have it fixed.
American Home Shield needs to really follow up a little better with who they're hiring so that their customers aren’t sitting like this without air. I'm 60 years old and I do have a heart condition. This is not very pleasing. And now, on top of all this, I have to pay $450 because I have to have the Freon refilled and they don’t cover that. American Home Shield should eat some of that cost for the aggravation they put me through. I’ve had American Home Shield for over 10 years and I have never had this issue in the past. They’ve always been wonderful on everything. However, I've been waiting over two weeks to have 5 people in my house to tell me at the end, this should’ve been covered on the first day, and I shouldn’t have been going through all this stress.

My home warranty with AHS expires in 2020 and I will not be renewing it. AHS customer service reps need training. The A/C in my home went out at 3:44 AM in the morning, I placed a service request online at 4:00 AM and was assigned a service company for repair. I tried all day to contact the service provider to set up an appointment, I was unable to get anyone on the phone or leave a voice message because the company mailbox was full. I live in Texas and by 4:00 pm the inside temperature in my home was already at 90 degrees. I was trying desperately to keep not only myself cool but a small puppy.
I called AHS to get another provider and the customer service rep would not listen to anything I had to say. All Ms ** would tell me was that the service provider had 24 hrs to respond to me and that I should read my contract because that is what my contract says. Ms ** refused to transfer my call to a manager or supervisor and placed me on hold for 25 minutes just to come back and disconnect me because I did not hang up without speaking to someone other than her. This is not good business! This is not how paying customers should be treated!

Buyer beware with this company. My first and only claim with this company was when my AC went out at the beginning of the summer. The "vendor" they sent out did not do much of anything except stand in my backyard and talk on the phone. I was informed his "diagnosis" of the problem would have to be filed with AHS and then they would determine if it was a covered service. They came out on a Friday, and I still had not heard anything by Tuesday. I tried multiple times to reach this "vendor" (an AC service company I had never heard of) by phone and by e-mail without success. I finally heard back from AHS that the AC compressor was broken due to hail damage and they would not cover it. This did not sound right to me.
I reached out to my homeowners insurance. They sent a claims agent out to evaluate. He found hail damage to my roof that I didn't know I had, but said there was no way the compressor was damaged by hail. I contacted an AC service company I have used in the past and trust. They were able to come the next day to look at the unit. The compressor quit working because the AC unit was old, but it was not from hail damage. At this point, I had been 12 days without AC so I had them replace the unit (summer in Kansas is not a good time to be without AC!). This whole ordeal made me think maybe there was some kind of financial advantage for the "vendor" to report a diagnosis that AHS would not cover. Needless to say, I cancelled my warranty with AHS.
Good afternoon Kristin,

The repairman came to fix dishwasher and had to order a part which meant he took the back off and looked inside. He came back to put the part in along with another repair person then said motor went out on the dishwasher and it had some debris. He showed me the plastic pieces. He also said the way the dishwasher is made it shouldn't get any kind of small plastic pieces falling into the motor. Told me he'd have to call the warranty company and I kind of figured they may not cover that. But he went and told the warranty company it was from a bug infestation. So if you've been in a house five years but it was built in 77 I'm sure there is a dead bug somewhere so AHS probably gets out of PAYING claims because of that. I guess it makes the repair contractors feel good to make customer feel bad/don't warranty. The repair people are there for the warranty company and not the customer. Read your contract!

I usually never write negative reviews. I signed up for a one year contract with American Home Shield on August 2018. I called them twice for services where each time they charged me $100 on top of my monthly payment, which I agreed to. First, they came to fix my microwave. It has been acting up since then but randomly. Second, they came a few months ago to check my furnace and told me they would get back to me to inform me if they could fix it or not. I never heard back from them. Not an email, not a phone call! And now when I call them about the status of my furnace claim they say that it has been closed.
Last week I received an email asking me to renew my yearly contract. I called them to make sure that they would not renew it. On top of that they say that I might be charged a cancellation fee! Since when do we get a cancellation fee when we decide not to renew? I told them I would keep my contract until August 25 (expiration date of contract) but I did not want to renew. I am not even sure they are going to process my request. The phone conversation with the customer agent was not clear. Again she stated that I "might" get a cancellation fee. I repeated multiple times that I was not cancelling. I just did not want to renew! I asked her to send me an email in that regard and her reply was that they could not send emails! I guess we are getting to a dead end... I will call again. And will chargeback or contact the BBB if I have to. I dislike doing this but services rendered were poor..
Hi Laura,
Your concerns regarding your customer service experience and the decision to not renew are understood. I would be glad to speak with you and make sure that the AHS account did not renew for another year.

To Whom it may concern, Being a member of American Home Shield for over a decade, I never had any major issues with my appliances and related systems. Unfortunately, this summer after roughly 14 years of being member I had to utilize my membership as my AC Unit has went out in this Alabama summer heat... Here is my current experience. I purposely tracked and logged all my dates and phone calls along with ID #'s from said employees to give the most accurate and factual review as possible.
On June 20, 2019 I called AHS and provided my membership details and advised the customer service representative I needed a request for service. Before I was able to give my personal information, I was told that I would be put on a brief hold from a foreigner who spoke inaudible English with lukewarm care about my current situation. After being placed on hold for roughly 20 minutes the representative advised me that AHS would be in touch with me shortly and will schedule a contractor to visit my place of residence to remedy the situation. On June 24, 2019 the contractor arrived and stated that the blades on the AC Unit had run their course, and needed to be replaced. He rebooted the system after replacing the blade fans, and the system began to run... 20 minutes passed and the system failed again. That same day a call was placed, which follows the same sketchy English and extended holds on the phone.
The service representative advised me that a contractor would be out to the house again this time expedited, because we are going on a week without having air... June 26, 2019, the contractor stated that the wiring had gone bad over the years of the appliance. He replaced the wires and attempted to restart the system. After a few tries it turned and he left accordingly. Before the sun had set that day, the system failed once again. At this point we have already paid $75.00 for the service request and I personally took off of work twice in order to meet the window of when the contractor was supposed to arrive.
Of course we called again (dealing with the piss-poor customer service and the representative stated that he could not do anything being located in the Philippines this time) and now had to let AHS personally that we felt that the entire AC Unit needed to be replaced, which is supposedly covered in our Contract (section F.1), and they concurred. Don’t ask me why the contractor did not write it in their disposition… The contractor arrives again on June 28, 2019, and states that the compressor is out and must be replaced. The contractor then says he doesn’t have the part and will contact AHS in order to obtain it. In a period of roughly two weeks, along with my mom, and brother, I all called AHS periodically every day. The holds turned into hour long holds, with the staple statement of “We’re experiencing a high volume of calls, I’ll put you on a hold” by someone not located in the continental US.
We had no way to get in touch with a supervisor, no email address to contact, and not one bit of help from customer service. We finally received a call from AHS which excited and shocked us, only to find out that the part and labor for the situation was deemed not covered by our contract hidden in a clause that is a blanket to protect AHS from having to pay for the expenses for a total of $750.00. It is currently July 9, 2019, and we received a message from the contractor that AHS has finally processed the order for the part and they will arrive July 12, 2019 between 8-12 and will not fix the unit until the $750.00 is paid in full. My mom has had to move out of the house due to the extreme heat in the house, and my brother and I have spent $250.00 for AC wall units along with an extra $100.00 with our own personal contractor to get a second diagnosis on our unit, who stated a full replacement would be needed.
This “review”, as mentioned in the title is written with little to no emotion. I’ll allow the reader to form their own opinion of American Home Shield at their leisure and discretion. All that I have said is factual and well documented. I just hope this doesn’t get filtered or discarded so others have the opportunity to be forewarned. If I save one person from dealing with AHS then I have done my job at this point. AHS is a disgrace from top to bottom and the treatment my family has received is inhumane to say the least. Deceitful business practices, incompetent and improperly trained employees, and horrible customer service... Please save yourself the trouble and hassle and go with State Farm or AllState, or any other home insurer to be honest. The money that you’re “saving” with AHS is not worth it even if it was doubled. I could go on, but God forbid anyone else have to go through what we have. Respectfully, KDB
Hi Kenneth,
Your patronage to American Home Shield over the past 14 years is more than appreciated. Your concerns are understood regarding the delay in service experienced to have the air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

We contacted AHS regarding a leak in our wall (turned out to be slab leak) but one one would come for a week! We finally got someone on our own. Then we called about our dryer and the contractor they assigned (AG Appliance Repair) couldn't come for a week. We scheduled our appointment for 12 to 4 pm (4 hour window) but the repairman showed up at 8 am and complained that no one was home! AG called the next day and wanted us to wait another week to come out.
When I called customer service I got hung up on twice and the third person I talked to could barely speak English. She couldn't understand my complaint and kept trying to schedule the same contractor saying they were the only one in Orange County CA. When the CS person finally agreed to assign a different contractor she wanted to charge me for the 1st visit, that never happened, and for the new contractor to be sent. I canceled my request and had to find a contractor at my own expense. So the question is... what am I paying AHS for?
Hi Christopher,
I understand your frustration with regard to the delay in service to have the leak and dryer repaired I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

I placed a service call for water dripping from A/C vent. Took a few days, but service provider came. Charged me for Freon (which I understand is not part of service warranty), and said repair made. Very next day, still dripping water on my furniture. I put in another service request. After several days of no contact (service provider never answered phone after many attempts), called AHS. Was told that they would make direct contact with provider or change provider. More than 24 hours later, still no service. Called AHS again, repeated same conversation and STILL waiting, 6 days later...
Hi Kimberly, thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

Last May, it was 118 degrees and my air conditioner stopped working. I could not get through to AHS on the phone. I had company at my home on and had no other place to stay. (AHS does not send workers out on the weekend or on the same day of your request for service.) I could not wait until Monday to have my Air Conditioner fixed, so I had it fixed. It cost me over $2000.00 to get the compressor fixed and I spent months trying to get AHS to reimburse me. I spent hours on the phone with representatives and supervisors and they stated that they have a policy that you cannot get another service person to fix something. What would you do? It was a life or death situation. After months of calling and letter writing AHS finally reimbursed me for only 1/3 of the total cost. The sad thing is they don’t have an emergency number when the issue comes up close to a weekend.
A few weeks ago I had a plumber at my home installing a sink and he just happened to take a look at my water heater. Unfortunately, it was leaking in many places, an emergency in process. I ended up having him replace it to avoid a catastrophe. Once again, I called AHS and they said they won’t reimburse me based on their policies. I asked if I could send the receipt to a manager and needed to call several times before I was given the email address. I haven’t heard back yet.
Good morning C M,
Your concerns are understood regarding the noncovered cost associated with the air conditioner repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss your overall experience regarding the water heater repair as well.

Our sink was stopped up really bad. American Home Shield sent out Matt's Plumbing within a day after I submitted the claim online. This turnaround time is pretty rare, and that was wonderful. The plumber solved the problem without going overboard with it. Because sometimes the contractor would come out and say they would need to replace things, but the plumber was not that way at all. He took care of the problem and was very professional. Matt's Plumbing was an all around great company in general.

We were having air conditioning issues where the compressor on the air conditioner stopped working, so A-1 came out and replaced it. It took close to 48 hours from the time that we put the claim in at American Home Shield, but we put it in on a Sunday so it was to be expected. Quality of service was fine as the techs were professional and quick. I was very pleased.

I talked to an American Shield rep about my AC issues and at that time, United Air Temp Inc. couldn't get to us until the next week. I told her that I needed someone before then if possible. I have an infant. It was the weekend and it was supposed to be over 90 degrees. The rep was kind enough to refer me to the Bennett company. She told me to call them and find out when they could come out. I called and the receptionist there asked how many units I had to which I answered I had three. She said she didn't consider that as an emergency and she was not going to send anyone out until sometime next week. She said that if she had known that was the situation, she wouldn't have accepted American Home Shield's request.
According to her, my situation was not an emergency because some people don’t have air. That was even before I could say, “You don’t even know my circumstances. You don’t know if I’m a tenant. You don’t know if I just have access to this area where the unit is broken.” She just shut me out and was very abrasive. I thanked her and said I would be notifying American Home Shield about how our conversation went and anybody else that I could talk to. She said goodbye and just hang up.
I went online and put that information. I called American Home Shield back and asked that I get United Air Temp Inc back because it looked like I was not gonna be able to get anyone out on the weekend, which was a Friday. That’s when United Air came out. They came out that morning and they were very professional. They were timely, understood the problem, addressed the problem, and answered any questions. The tech was very patient. Everything got taken care of and so far, the unit has been good.
I would not recommend Bennett. The company itself may have been good but their receptionist was so nasty. She shut me down. I couldn’t believe she would talk to a customer like that without even knowing the circumstances or giving me a chance. I would like American Home Shield to make some type of recommendation. If they could put that in the record, I’d appreciate that.

My most recent claim experience with American Home Shield was great. It was easy to get a hold of them. They called me back. I was happy with the contractors. They stayed in touch with me and fixed my problem. My air conditioning was, at times, cutting on and cutting off. They told me and showed me what the problem was when they fixed it. It was a bad emergency cut off switch. My AC has been performing great since the repair. No problem at all even with the 100-degree temperatures we've had. I've had absolutely no problem with American Home Shield since my wife and I started using them. This will be the second full year. So, we'll be starting our third year with them in December.
Good afternoon Greg,
Thank you for providing us with feedback regarding your most recent American Home Shield experience. It is our goal to provide our customers with a great experience and team of contractors to complete the repairs. We hope you continue to enjoy!

Our air conditioning unit outside stopped working. It's an old air conditioner and it's a Concord. We submitted a claim with AHS and when the contractor came out, they replaced the fuse and got it running again. But on the next day, it died again. They came back out and said there was no fixing it, so they replaced it. I enjoyed the service and the guys that came out here did a good job. However, I've been told that if you set your air at 71, it stays 71. But when it’s extremely hot, it still doesn't seem to be able to keep up. Right now, it says 74 and it’s set on 71. It’ll probably go up to 75 then after the sun goes down, it’ll drop right back down to 71 where I have it set. I don't know if that’s normal or not because I’m not an AC guy but even a couple of AC people that I know say that when it’s that hot, no air conditioner is going to keep up completely.
One of the techs also checked the Freon and he came back out again after they put the new unit in. Apparently, the guy who put it in quit, so he came out and he turned the air handler up to high. It was set low before he came and he said I'd be good then. Other than that, as far as having American Home Shield is concerned, I had a good experience. Although I find it difficult sometimes to understand who I’m talking to and I’m not a prejudice person at all. But I don't have a problem with anyone from anywhere and all in all, I was really pleased and I’m gonna renew my contract with AHS.

Our recent claim experience with American Home Shield was amazing. As a precaution, we already had someone come out when I thought the AC wasn’t working perfectly and got that all taken care of. Within the next couple of months, it had the issues that were discovered. The tech was amazing and very professional. He found the issue immediately. He knew exactly was he was looking for. He was very communicative with me, let me know the ETA, and gave me an opportunity to get home from work which is a 45-minute drive. He had a cancelled appointment and we were able to do it earlier, but he gave me such notice that I could get there. It was as smooth as it could possibly be and it was different within five minutes after he left.
They are a company that American Home Shield should stick with because the communication is really great. They have a messaging service and they sent me text messages to let me know on both times. They confirmed the appointment and the tech took the time to go ahead and text me and let me know he was en route. I don’t even think that this was a work phone. It might have even been a personal one. They are a good company and American Home Shield should be pleased that they've selected such a great third-party to handle their warranties.
My husband did the claim from Saudi Arabia. That’s how easy it was. I'm doing all of this by myself until he can move back here, and it's a big deal when I'm working 12 hours a day and need to do something. For American Home Shield and their third-party to be that communicative and for the third party to allow me that latitude for getting there in 45 minutes mean the world to me. We were taken care of and it's important to me when people truly takes care of you.
My husband does all these things. For him to not be here and to manage this from another company, and for it to be this easy and to work out this well is amazing. I'm in the service industry and ours don’t usually go this well or I hear all the negatives. And it truly, truly was seamless, flawless, perfect. Our house is 3 years old, and American Home Shield did come with the purchase of the home in December. We will renew and will let everyone know who we did it through and to make sure that everyone uses American Home Shield because the 2 times we've needed them, it was flawless. I appreciate the service so much.

So far, the people that came out through American Home Shield have done really good work. All Brand Appliance Repair came out for my stove that wasn’t heating up. Filing the claim with American Home Shield was very easy. I called it in and the guy that did the work was outstanding. All Brand came within about a week, and the contractor made sure the work was done right. He did the stove, and then he also did the dryer that went on a blank. It wouldn’t work and he fixed it, and it runs perfectly.

Our heat pump was shutting off every now and then. We went away for a few days and when we came back, it was 91 degrees in the house. I sent the claim to American Home Shield online and then I called the company directly. We paid for the guy to come look at it. He came out here, said he fixed it, and then he left. But I got ahold of him again and told him that whatever was wrong with it hadn't been fixed. He said he would call me back, but it’s been a week and a half, and I haven’t heard from him since.

I filed a claim for the dryer. The heating element went out. I like talking to a rep when submitting claims. The reps are very knowledgeable and well experienced because they give me what I need and the information once I have submitted my claim. All my experiences have been very well with them. I've been with American Home Shield ever since I bought my house in 2003 and all the contractors that I have been with were very professional. They came out and let me know what the problem was. They also let me know if they had to order it and if it was gonna take a couple of days. So, I've had great experiences with all the contractors. They took care of the problem every single time.

American Home Shield has great service and I always call and set up something when submitting claims. The air conditioner was leaking and not cooling, and I was given a longer time frame than what I expected but I asked if there was any way it could be rushed because I have tenants in the house. The contractors were out there the next day and they had to put Freon in the unit as well as unclog the drain line. I have AHS on both of my houses and I'm very happy with their service. I would recommend them.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for a washing machine that was not functional. Their representative was fine, but it was just that they had to schedule two times to come out and I had to leave from work twice. The contractor didn't bring the parts. I thought that was the point of giving AHS the model. The contractor had to come out. I had to leave work to come out. Then he had to schedule to come back again, but I had to make sure I was home again. And so, that was kinda inconvenient. Other than that, he was fine, professional and courteous. And everything has been fine since the repair.
