I sent in a claim when the water heater wasn't working. I wasn't home when the technician came, but my sister was here and she said it was a good experience. The water heater has been great. It's working. Once I put in the claim, American Home Shield responds very quickly and let me know who's gonna call. Then the contractor usually call within 24 hours. With the last repairs I had, they were here within three days.

I had an experience with American Home Shield when I submitted a claim for my dishwasher, which wasn't working. The sprayer arm failed to operate, leading to dishes not being properly cleaned. I submitted the claim through their app, which was quite easy to use. However, I didn't receive any information about the contractors in advance; I was only informed that a service contractor had been assigned and they would call to set up an appointment.

Sears was assigned to handle the dishwasher repair and visited multiple times. Unfortunately, their service was unsatisfactory. They claimed the water pressure was low, although a plumber later confirmed that this wasn't the issue. Sears seemed unprofessional at times, with instances where the technician didn't show up, claiming a lack of parking, or closed the ticket without resolving the problem.

Despite these challenges, I would still give American Home Shield a rating of 3.5 to 4 stars based on my overall experience, mostly due to hassle-free handling of minor issues. Their services have typically been quick and problems are usually resolved promptly. I've been with them for about 10 years, since 2014, because having such a service seemed like a logical and convenient choice.

For those considering American Home Shield, I would still recommend them, acknowledging both the pros and cons of their service. Overall, I'd rate their customer service, pricing, and app interface at around 4 stars, and the coverage itself at 5 stars. While there have been some frustrations, especially with larger issues, the convenience they offer is significant.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield regarding my thermostat that went out. While I attempted to fix it myself, I ended up shorting a fuse. I placed a call for service on a Friday, but the appointment was scheduled for Monday, meaning I had to go a few days without heat, which was quite inconvenient.

When the contractor arrived, he was punctual and professional. He addressed not just the fuse issue but also went above and beyond by pointing out and correcting some installation oversights from when my furnace was initially set up in my newly rehabbed house. He efficiently rectified the problems within 20 minutes, and since then, everything has been working perfectly.

Throughout this experience, I had a positive interaction with American Home Shield, and I would confidently rate their customer service and warranty coverage highly. Their online tools and app also performed well for me. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield to others based on the service I received.

I had a rather frustrating experience with American Home Shield. We had a plumbing issue with our rainwater heater, so we called them for assistance. When the technician arrived, he seemed confident he could fix it but then informed us we needed a part specifically for our rainwater heater. I was surprised because, in my 24 years with them, we’ve never had to order a part ourselves. This delay left us without hot water for a week, which was difficult for me due to health issues and a young grandchild at home.

The technician returned later and finally ordered the part, but this should have been done during the initial visit. The delay caused further inconvenience, and I ended up with an infection.

Additionally, I’ve had recent issues with my dryer. After the technician blamed the problem on the electrical connection and an electrician fixed it, the dryer still isn't heating properly. I called American Home Shield again, and I’m currently waiting for a response.

Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been disappointing lately, and I would rate their service quite low based on these recent interactions. While I’ve had better experiences in the past, this situation has been quite frustrating.

When the compressor went out on my mini split, I called in and reported it on the phone. It was very easy to get through to one the first time. But American Home Shield sent three people out that couldn't touch it. Then the last people that came out sent me a thing and said it was gonna cost $1,895 to replace the unit. But they installed the unit that failed the last time and then they want me to pay $1,895. So I went with the buyout option because American Home Shield couldn't get anybody to fix it. I had to settle with American Home Shield for 1,300 dollars, and I had a brand new unit put in for less than that.

Everybody I talked to, except for the very last person I talked to, lied to me. They gave me wrong information, told me they'd call me back or they'd have somebody else to call me back, and they would never call me back. I always had to call them back and get on the phone and wait. This was the worst experience I've ever had with anything in my life. That's the reason I cancelled the policy. I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone. I'm very dissatisfied.

I initially had a satisfactory experience with American Home Shield, but over the past few years, I've been increasingly disappointed. The contractors they send often have to do rework, costing me more time and hassle. While some contractors provided decent service, others have been dismissive or unhelpful. For instance, one plumber gave poor advice and didn't resolve my issue, ultimately costing me out-of-pocket expenses.

Recently, my dryer stopped working, and despite multiple visits from contractors, it remains unfixed since November 25th. The company they assigned to my dryer repair had poor online reviews, and despite my concerns, American Home Shield insisted on using them, offering no alternatives.

The website for filing service requests is user-friendly, and while American Home Shield's customer service representatives answer questions, they follow rigid protocols without offering flexible solutions. I hesitate to rely on their warranty coverage, always uncertain if an issue will be covered. Their prices have been increasing yearly, contrasting with the declining service quality.

In summary, my confidence in American Home Shield has waned, and I am considering discontinuing their services for more reliable options.

I recently had a seamless experience with American Home Shield. The timer on my dryer broke, and they handled the issue efficiently. They diagnosed the problem, ordered a replacement timer, and installed it a few days later. I typically file claims through their app, which I find very user-friendly. Although I wasn't home during the repair, my son was there, and he had no complaints about the contractor's work or attitude. Since the repair, everything has been working perfectly. I recently had to submit a claim with American Home Shield regarding my garbage disposal, which was not working properly. Initially, I called and spoke to an automated system. The first technician they sent was quite young but very polite and pleasant. However, a couple of weeks later, the issue persisted, so I reached out to the plumbing company directly, not American Home Shield, and they sent another technician who was equally as nice. The second technician was able to fully repair the disposal.

Overall, my experience with the technicians sent by American Home Shield has always been positive; I've never had a bad experience. Usually, the repairs are completed correctly the first time. However, I feel that the costs are becoming a bit too high, prompting me to consider other options. When it comes to customer service, my experience with live representatives is somewhat mixed due to occasional difficulties with language barriers that require me to ask for repeats frequently.

I have had only bad experiences with American Home Shield. I'm very unhappy with their coverage and service. I'm not planning to renew next year. They try their very hardest to not cover the policyholder. There was a water line coming from the outside of the house that went under the garage, and it came to the crawling space. In the crawling space, there was a leak. The pipe leaked inside the crawling space. It was walls in. I did my service request and AHS sent a plumber.

Anytime Home Services' plumber came. He took a minute or two and said, "We have to replace the whole pipe that comes from the street." After a minute or two he was there, he left, and that was it. He said, "I'm gonna send this information to your insurance and see if they will cover it." Later that day, I got an email saying, "Good news, your claim is partially covered." I opened that link and it said nothing was covered. So, the email was misleading. It said that it was $0 that I would get covered and $4000 each I will have to pay to replace that.

I called and AHS said, "We cannot do anything 'cause the hose, it's coming from the outside. And we only cover walls in. So, you're denied. Good luck." I contacted a different plumber with Any Hour 24/7 Plumbing in Utah. They came and inspected the leak, and said, "We could fix it from the inside." They fixed it from the inside. They came two days after. They charged $800, but they were able to pull the hose a bit and fix the leak. So, I was angry because it wasn't walls in issue that the insurance incorrectly declined. I called AHS and said, "You guys didn't cover something that you should have covered. At the very least, just refund me my service I pay 'cause you guys sent a contractor plumber that was here two minutes and misdiagnosed the issue and left. I feel robbed because you guys charged me $125 for someone to come here two minutes and later find out that my claim was being denied." They declined the refund as well.

I purchased my home seven months ago, and in the inspection, they said that there were some gaps between some plumbing pipes and it was a risk for having mice come in. So, as a part of the inspection, they told me, "You have to have them either fix this or acknowledge this." The seller had someone that came and sprayed from those little gaps. At first, it looked like they sprayed a bit much in one of the pipes and they clogged the pipe in my furnace. SAummer came, I didn't have any issues with the AC. But when winter and the colder days came, I started using the furnace for air heating, it failed.

I did the service request and said, "My furnace is not working." AHS sent a who came and said, "Everything is fine with your furnace. The problem is the piping for the drainage is clogged. So, this is not an HVAC issue, this is a piping issue." I called AHS again and said, "Can we please switch my service from HVAC to pipe, to plumbing?" They said, "No, we cannot do that. You have to pay for another service." From my perspective, if the furnace is not working, the issue is HVAC-related. They didn't fix that. They wanted me to pay another $125, which I did not pay. I have another plumbing that I got and fixed it for 50 bucks.

I have had a generally positive experience with American Home Shield, but I've encountered a specific issue with my dishwasher that hasn't been resolved. The dishwasher was leaking water during its cycle, so I contacted American Home Shield. The repairman who visited suggested there was debris under the door panel causing it not to seal properly. He cleaned it, and I cleaned it again, but the problem persisted after I returned from a trip and used the dishwasher again.

In the past, my claims with American Home Shield have gone smoothly. The contractors have been reliable, and repairs have typically resolved the issues satisfactorily. This is the first time I've faced a lingering problem, making it particularly frustrating given the timing. Overall, I've been happy with the service and feel this might be an anomaly with my dishwasher. I recently had an experience with American Home Shield, and unfortunately, it's been quite frustrating. My dryer has been out of order for two and a half weeks because their vendor is unable to get the necessary parts. The repair process requires that parts be ordered through American Home Shield's system, which significantly delays the repair process. I've been a customer for a long time, so I understand their system. The issue is that you have to use their vendors.

After inspecting the appliance, the vendor sends a parts list to American Home Shield for authorization, and only after approval are the parts ordered, creating a long wait if your appliance breaks down. If I had hired an independent repair service, the repair process would likely have been completed within a couple of days. However, American Home Shield's vendors take longer since they are paid lower rates compared to regular customers. This means that such repairs are not prioritized. I had a similar situation with my washer recently, but having been with them for a while, I knew what to expect.

They’ve replaced significant items like my heating system, AC, washers, and dryers in the past, which was beneficial. But, if you don't have a claim for a couple of years like me, you might question the value since you're still paying the annual fee. Yet, when you do need something substantial replaced, like a heater, it can save you a lot. The service is beneficial for those who aren’t handy and it offers convenience since you don't have to source or install parts yourself. However, American Home Shield’s process can be time-consuming and they do not prioritize quick responses from their vendors. This convenience comes at the cost of patience and understanding their system.

The contractor that American Home Shield sent needed to replace the pump in the washer. The quality was great. The only issue I had was it took almost a month for it to get repaired. It took two weeks for someone to see what was wrong, and another two weeks to get the part and be able to schedule someone. When I pressed them on, "I'm gonna be without a washer for a month," they said that was the only time they had. Everything else was good.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield regarding my refrigerator not cooling properly. Initially, the first set of technicians weren't helpful, repeatedly suggesting I unplug the refrigerator to fix the issue. This approach dragged on from October, leading me to file a complaint because no actual resolution was provided, nor any change recorded. Eventually, a secondary technician was sent out, and he was really professional. He resolved the issue, explaining that the previous technicians didn't leave any invoice, which was causing delays. I appreciate the secondary technician’s efficiency and documentation, which ensures smoother follow-up if needed. He even mentioned bringing parts if the problem recurs within 30 days, which shows proactive service.

While the technician was excellent, my experiences with American Home Shield as a company have been mixed. Previous claims also had hiccups, and on coverage, I feel let down as replacements or repairs have not been executed as expected, leading me to personally bear costs. Hence, I’d rate the overall company at a 4, but specifically rate their customer service highly at a 5, as I always received great support on calls. However, the coverage and pricing aspects warrant a lower rating, as the high monthly costs don’t match the service reliability. I suggest American Home Shield collaborate with better third-party companies for sending out technicians, which could definitely enhance their overall rating. Nonetheless, their website is user-friendly and satisfactory.

I recently dealt with American Home Shield and, unfortunately, my experience was frustrating. I had a claim involving my pool equipment where the connection from the control pedestal to the pool heater wasn't working correctly. It turned out they didn't cover the wire connecting the pool heater to the pedestal, considering it an accessory, even though the pool heater itself was fixed. However, the issue I faced was that the connection was perfectly fine before their technician came out. After their service, it stopped working, which was disappointing.

Additionally, I have an ongoing issue with my refrigerator. A contractor was sent to check it, and although it appeared to be resolved temporarily after unplugging it, the problem returned once plugged in. Despite reporting this, I haven't been contacted by them for a follow-up in months. This past month has been so busy that I haven't reached out again and got in contact with American Home Shield about it.

On the positive side, they resolved some other issues promptly, like a whole house fan and a shower pipe problem. Still, the refrigerator has consistently malfunctioned over the past year, and though they keep attempting to fix it, a replacement has never been offered.

In summary, my experience with American Home Shield has been mixed. While they've been prompt in addressing some issues, the continued problems with the pool equipment and refrigerator leave much to be desired. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 3 out of 5.

I have been with American Home Shield for over 30 years, although I briefly switched to another provider, Choice, for a few months due to a tempting deal. My experience with Choice was terrible, leading me to return to American Home Shield. Recently, Orlando Central Appliance South LLC came out to fix my appliance through American Home Shield. Initially, my appliance was malfunctioning—it just wouldn't work, requiring constant adjustments.

I filed the claim by speaking directly with a representative, which I found to be the best experience I've ever had with any service provider. The contractor who arrived was highly professional. I have extensive experience with electronics myself, having served 23 years in the Navy and taught electronics, so I can distinguish skilled work easily. He came well-prepared, knew exactly what he was doing, and even returned with the necessary part to fix my appliance. Everything’s been working great since then.

I found American Home Shield to be better than their competitors, although slightly more expensive. However, the service quality justifies the price. The other company denied covering simple issues, which led to an ordeal involving legal avenues to resolve. I appreciate the reliability of American Home Shield, even if not perfect.

I've been using American Home Shield for home appliance coverage since I moved to town, starting from the end of July, beginning of August. It's been very convenient because, being new to the area, I didn't have to go through the hassle of finding a reliable repair service.

We've had Sears come out three times: once for the ice maker in the refrigerator, another for the dishwasher, and today for the dryer. The service from Sears has been remarkable. Each technician sent out has been professional, personable, and efficient in solving the issues. In all cases, they had to order parts, but they kept me well-informed during the process, even shipping parts to my address and scheduling installation promptly thereafter.

One downside I've experienced is that American Home Shield can be a bit difficult to reach when I have questions, which is an area I think they could improve. Nonetheless, I appreciate not having to worry about finding qualified repairmen, which has been invaluable. Overall, it's been incredibly helpful having this service with moving into our new home.

I recently had a service experience with American Home Shield regarding an issue with our furnace. The furnace wasn’t producing any heat, so we reached out for help. The technician who came was knowledgeable and quickly diagnosed the problem as an issue with the ignition system. He promptly retrieved the necessary part from his car and replaced it, restoring the heat in our home efficiently.

Since the repair, the furnace has been functioning perfectly with no further issues. Although I would have preferred a quicker response time due to the circumstances, I understand the challenges during the holidays. I’ve had no issues with American Home Shield’s coverage or their representatives, and I would recommend their service to others based on this experience.

The rubber part that protects the washer door from leaking was damaged. I logged in and said I needed to put in a claim. It was easy. American Home Shield asked me what it was. They told me to put in a description and what was damaged. I had a picture of the piece that came off. I took a picture of that. They opened the claim. Ten minutes later, I got a call from Sears to set up an appointment and to get more details. They had me take a picture of the model number and some numbers off the actual machine so they could know exactly the machine it was. I took a picture as well as the part for them that was damaged so they could be ready to fix it as soon as they got here.

Within 20 minutes of them being here, they repaired it. My wife told me the tech was a very nice gentleman. The washer is perfect again. The deductible could be lowered a bit if the repair was not as serious because the repair did not cost $100. It might have just because of the techs coming out and I see the prices people have, but maybe they could make certain concessions when it's a minor piece. Other than that, I have no issue paying the $100.

The technician from Lane Services assessed the situation efficiently, ran a power test, and determined the fan motor was the issue. He left briefly to obtain the necessary replacement and returned to install it. The entire process was completed in less than two hours, which was exceptional. Overall, I've consistently had positive experiences with the technicians American Home Shield sends out—they've always been reliable. I recently interacted with American Home Shield and had a rather frustrating experience concerning their service response. When dealing with D&J Appliances, the scheduling took quite some time, then when they came out and assessed the issue, they said a part was needed. They ordered it and that took several weeks, which was not their fault. However, when they got the part, scheduling the installation dragged on longer than expected. After installation, the issue persisted. Despite being told before they left that it was fixed, it wasn't. I had to follow up, and it took another week for a technician to come out. Unfortunately, he was not much help. He didn't seem to assess the issue at all and claimed another part was needed. That was Tuesday and I've since received no updates, exacerbating the situation over a month and a half for what seems to be a simple repair. Their technicians do not seem fully equipped to address or expedite the issue.

When it comes to reaching out for service, I use both their phone and online options. Generally, the online submission is fairly straightforward. However, the overall customer service is pretty standard, not exceptional. Regarding the pricing for their service, I find it lacking in value considering the troubles I've encountered.

I recently had some disappointing experiences with American Home Shield. My most significant issue was with my water heater. I had to spend over $5000 to replace it because the company wouldn't cover the repair, which left me quite upset. In another instance, I submitted a repair request for a TV, but never received a response.

Additionally, the contractors assigned to my water heater job left me dissatisfied. I had paid a lot of money assuming I'd be getting a unit that kept water hot continuously. However, after installation, I discovered that wasn't the case. The contractor didn't offer any options, and after they left, the heater's performance wasn't as expected – we had to wait as long for hot water as before, despite adjusting the heat settings.

American Home Shield has been a major disappointment. I submitted a service request for three appliances, including my refrigerator, which is a safety hazard as it leaks water and almost caused my elderly mother to fall. The technician they assigned was unhelpful, misdiagnosing the refrigerator and ordering unnecessary parts while ignoring the actual problem. He also claimed my dryer was fine but gave impractical advice, like cleaning the sensor before every use—something no one should have to do.

Despite my immediate concerns and repeated requests for a different technician, AHS insisted on sending the same person back, wasting nearly two weeks of my time. Their loyalty seems to be with their technicians, not their customers. To make matters worse, the company they assigned, Majestik Appliances, has numerous terrible reviews, which reflects poorly on AHS.

As of today, none of my appliances have been fixed, and it looks like I’ll end the year with these unresolved issues. After years as a loyal customer, I expected much better service. AHS needs to prioritize their customers and ensure competent technicians are assigned. I cannot recommend them based on this experience.

I recently got back with American Home Shield. I've been in my home for 16 years. I haven't had any major issues with AHS. However, I get upset when I pay for something and sometimes I would have to call back. When I call them, they would say they could help with something, and they would help me with it. But if it failed shortly after, did they really help? I called them about my microwave, they sent a contractor out and fixed it. It would not work. I called AHS again, they sent a contractor out. AHS said they would fix it. It failed again almost immediately. Right now, it's not working. That's why I got mad and canceled for a period of time.

The guy came out. He claimed that the garage door worked fine as far as letting it up and down with my remote in my car. But the one on the panel on the wall when walking in your house from the garage does not work. He tried to make me pay for it. I told him, "I'm not paying for it. This is why I pay American Home Shield." He changed it out. Two days later, it never worked and still hasn't. That pissed me off because I pay a lot. They could have done better. The only reason why I haven't called them in because I would have to pay $125 for them to come out and fix it.

My septic went out here and I had to pay out of pocket. I had to get it pumped out myself and pay. It wasn't a lot because it's just me and my daughter, but it's a five-bedroom home. They said that wasn't covered. They told me everything was covered. My payment went from 55 to all the way up to 70-something. They're about that money. A lot of people say that they don't wanna cover stuff. But they fixed my air conditioner several times and replaced it.

One of the plugs in my daughter's room was not working. The contractor switched that out. The light in my master bedroom flickered. I turn it on, it would go right back off. The contractor fixed everything. I asked for a cover for one of the outlets in the kitchen. He told me I could go to Home Depot to get a cover for it. He said he didn't have one on his truck but they fixed all the plugs.

I was very impressed with American Home Shield. They sent out a contractor, my dishwasher was covered. The contractor couldn't fix it but there was no bellyaching about it and AHS took responsibility. The dishwasher's soap tray didn't close. I had to just throw the thing in the silverware drawer. It wouldn't clean effectively anymore. AHS responded to me within 12 hours of making the claim. The guy called me to set the schedule. He came the next day. He looked at the dishwasher and made the decision, talked with AHS and decided to replace it.

AHS sent me several pages of options on dishwashers, or they would give me a Lowe's credit. I went over to Lowe's and they had a tremendous sale where everything was half price and the amount of money would have gone far, but they didn't include delivery and installation. Installation at Lowe's was $229, and I didn't know about delivery. I did a search on ConsumerAffairs to find the best brands, and the two best were Bosch and Miele. Neither of those were on the options of replacements. Next was LG, which wasn't there. Halfway down the path was Whirlpool. So, I only selected from Whirlpool. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles. I got a basic dishwasher.

AHS makes money. They don't pay out more than they take in. But I like the security of having it. One of the reasons I got it is that they cover my air conditioner and my furnace. Things don't last like they used to. I had my furnace and air conditioner replaced 12 years ago and that is all you can expect out of these things these days.

We are very disappointed with the warranty service for our $1,000 microwave. Before scheduling the repair, I specifically asked what would be covered, and the warranty company assured me that as long as the issue wasn’t caused by user damage, it would either be repaired or replaced. Unfortunately, the experience was anything but straightforward.

The first technician diagnosed a faulty heating element, which they said would be covered. Then, another technician came out and said additional parts were damaged, requiring further orders. The next technician installed all the parts, but when we turned the microwave on, it started making loud noises and smoking. He told us he would inform the company that it needed to be replaced.

A few days later, we received a call saying the microwave was unrepairable, and because it was a manufacturer defect, nothing could be done under the warranty. Now, our microwave is in even worse condition than it was before the repairs, and we are left with no choice but to purchase a new one—despite being told the issue would be covered. This whole experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.

Our experience with American Home Shield (AHS) has been nothing short of frustrating. When our washer drum broke, the first repair company they connected us to couldn't even come out for weeks. The second company sent a technician who arrived in an unmarked sedan, had no business identification, and only carried a small tool bag. Communication was difficult as the technician did not speak English, so we had to use Google Translate to discuss the issue. After a quick 5-minute inspection, they said parts needed to be ordered and they'd return in five days.

When they finally replaced the washer drum, we thought the issue was resolved, but after just one load of laundry, the washer stopped draining and spinning. They had to come back again to fix their previous work. Now, one month later, the washer drum is broken again, and it’s still not draining water. When we contacted AHS on a Saturday to report the problem, we requested a different company since the first one had already failed twice. However, AHS informed us that switching to a new company would require us to pay another deductible. We asked to speak with a supervisor and were told we’d get a call back on Sunday or Monday. It’s now late Monday night, and we’ve heard nothing.

To make matters worse, AHS hides negative comments on their Facebook posts, which feels incredibly dishonest for a company claiming to provide reliable service. Overall, this has been a nightmare—terrible customer service, poor communication, and untrustworthy practices. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.

I'm overweight myself, but this guy probably weighed 450 pounds. He pulled up in some old sedan, got out with no tools and came in. I told him what happened with the oven, because it caught fire. We had an electrical fire. And he looked in there, shined his cell phone in there, took a picture of it, and he said, “Well, I think you're gonna need a new oven.” Then he left.

We were thinking, “Okay. Well, he's gonna file a report.” He didn't file a report right away, and American Home Shield even called him. We talked to American Home Shield almost every day, and they put us through to a supervisor, and she said she was in communication with the vendor, but he was non-responsive. And then when he finally filed the report, he said my oven was dirty, and I needed to clean it and he’d come back out, that a fire had started in the bottom of it. But that's not what happened. It was burning underneath and in the top. There wasn't any food in there. So we were in communication with American Home Shield, and I know they would prefer to repair something versus replace it, but just all the haggling because of that guy, we ended up being weeks without an oven over Thanksgiving holiday.

American Home Shield is incredible. I have already recommended them three different times. I was impressed with the company. Having lived in the southern California climate where there are two seasons, hot and hotter, dealing with a furnace, especially as the temperature dropped like it did here in Idaho, I had no idea what to do. So, I first had my son-in-law look at it and it was like, "Gosh, did I knock something loose? Did something happen?" So, he went out and showed me the furnace and said, "Your breaker has tripped." I didn't even know that a furnace was attached to a breaker. So, that was good to know.

Once my son-in-law flipped the breaker back, it was giving me a code of 14, which again, meant nothing to me. He said, "Because you have this warranty, you need to, number one, call your Realtor and ask her what was covered under it." My realtor sent me a link and helped walk me through making my first claim to AHS. When their service technician came out, they were kind and explained things that I needed to know as a homeowner. They filled in holes to my knowledge because I just didn't know. So, they were kind and considerate, and didn't make me feel like an old lady. They were very kind in their explanations. They did not talk to me in words that I wouldn't have understood. So, it was a great experience that I'm recommending AHS.

I'm a senior and I don't know how to do any plumbing at all and it worries me when I try to do it. The young boy was not very friendly and just walked in. I tried to talk to him but he didn't wanna talk. He just wanted to do the work and get out. All he had to do was put a new flush valve in it and it took him about a minute and a half. I was worried about our shut-off valves and I asked. It turns out the whole house has these valves but I would have rather had the turn-off valves. They have those that pull out, and they pop out and pop in, and they're not supposed to be good. I was reading an article on eBay about them and it said they call them the flood maker. I asked if American Home Shield would wanna replace them instead of dealing with a whole flood in somebody's house. He said he sees the turn-off valve all the time and they're all bad. But I think you can get a safer one that you turn off and on that’s metal instead of plastic.

The young boy said it would cost me 240 dollars to just change one and that was out of my bailiwick. I couldn't afford that. He wasn't here but about seven minutes. He wasn't unfriendly. He just was there to do his business and left, which was okay. I've always had excellent care with AHS and I just recommended it to my twin sister. So, hopefully, she gets something going.

I love American Home Shield. I had it for over 10 years when I lived in the rural part of Virginia. If we had a repair, it took a month to get it fixed because we only had one technician on the whole shore. But we loved him. We used him over there. Being my age, I wish AHS would have a senior discount just because of things like this when I had to pay $133. If I had asked a neighbor to do it, he'd have done it for free because it only took 10 minutes. But I didn't. I wanna be independent. I don't mind the $32 a month. That seems to fit in my budget easily as a middle-class senior citizen. But when I had it before, it was only $75 to call in a claim. Now, it's 125. So, it's doubled.

I called American Home Shield's number. Their rep helped me. The first time I called, I talked to a representative. The second time, it was just a voice prompt because I had already called. My most recent claim using American Home Shield was very poor. The contractor did make a diagnosis, and they were gonna replace my water heater. But then when they were gonna replace it, they confirmed the appointment but they never showed up. So, I called and I spoke to a representative. I told them, “Well, can't you just send somebody else?” She said that I had to stick with the same contractor even though they did not keep their appointment. Then I told her, “Okay. Well, do I have other options?” She said, “No. You don't have no other options.” I was like, “Well, how about a cash-out option so I could get somebody to come and install the water heater?” She gave me the runaround and then she transferred me to escalation.

Matilda, the representative in escalations, made things worse. She wasn't helpful at all. I told her to send me the options by email. She never sent me anything. She just left my account there for two weeks until I called and requested the update. “Well, what's gonna happen with my water heater if the contractor missed their appointment? The rep had confirmed that they were gonna go ahead and come and install it, and then they didn't. We were here waiting, and nobody ever showed up. I tried calling at the time of the appointment to see if they were gonna come because half an hour had passed, and they didn't answer. Then an hour passed. I called again. They didn't answer. Two hours passed. I called again. They did not answer.

I called again to American Home Shield, and they wanted me to forcefully stay with the contractor even though it had already been twice that I had confirmed the appointment and they never showed up to replace the water heater. I got upset and I told them, “You know what? Just cash me out. And I'll figure it out. I'll figure it out in buying the water heater and just having it installed.” And that was what we did.

The representative took care of sending me the email to another department in getting my cash-out to go ahead for us to purchase the water heater. She was very helpful. Overall, I felt I was totally ignored by American Home Shield. As a matter of fact, I was gonna go ahead and cancel my policy. Being a cash-out, they don't cover everything. When I got the plan, they said, “Oh, you were not gonna have to pay. You're just gonna have to pay one time,” and right when you file the claim, you have all these expenses that you have to pay.

The furnace wouldn't turn on so we didn't know what was wrong with it. We just knew it was something with the HVAC and that's covered by American Home Shield so we called them. The technician came on time and didn’t make a mess like some technicians do. He checked the thermostat and then, he needed access to the unit. It was fairly quick. He went back and forth checking the thermostat until the furnace worked. Everything has been good so far with AHS. In general, they always bring the appliance back to normal or in most instances, probably better because, it's fixed or it has newer parts. I’ve had no issues where I have to call them again or the techs have to come back. Maybe it has happened once, but that's normal. And when the techs do, they just come back, do their thing, and then they go.

It'll be nice to receive some kind of report when AHS offers tune-ups so you can have it with you. There should at least be an email that says they did a tune-up, what they found, what they did and what they cleaned. So you know that those things were checked and under the warranty and they shouldn't go wrong because they just got fixed. There are other things that a company like American Home Shield could do, like expanding their services a bit more. We’d have to pay more for it, but it would be nice to have the option to say that I can also get this so they can cover these other areas.

There are so many things that can happen in a household. It’s not necessarily increasing the basic package but just offering it as a package that you can choose to have. Since they already have contacts with companies that handle these things, it would be nice. For example, renter's insurance. Sometimes it's something very small, like a minor break, yet that can be covered and it can be fixed. A company like American Home Shield could easily do that and it would be nice to just deal with one company. And you’re already insured in one way but they can also insure it for repairs.

Red's Division did a good job. The service was efficient. It was fast. They were knowledgeable on what to set my heating and stuff on. They were really good. I also had the same experience with Sears and everybody else that American Home Shield had sent. With my refrigerator claim, the techs had to come back out and fix it a couple of weeks later. It did the same thing. So, they came back out and repaired it again. It was the same guy that came back out. It hadn't been broken since.

I had an incident where we couldn't get the refrigerator in the garage repaired. It took them three months to come out here and fix our our refrigerator in the garage. Then they asked us to find somebody to fix it. I was like, "Huh? That ain't what we're paying y'all for." The manager was like, "Well, we asked y'all to go find somebody to repair your refrigerator." "Why would we do that when we're paying you?" That was really horrible. All of our food went bad and then nobody compensated us for anything. Other than that, our experience had been wonderful.

We've been with the company for a long time and nobody has ever said that there was an online thing. Also, I think it's not fair that we're already paying monthly and then we have to go back and we have to pay a service fee. At our old home, they came out to repair something, at least, for three summers instead of just replacing it. If they put the Antifreeze in there every year, then that means there's an issue if you have to recharge it every year or come out twice a year, the same year, to do the same thing. It's not holding a charge to me. So, I feel like they should have just replaced it. They did well on replacing our refrigerator though. I'm still happy with the coverage.

Recently, the lights weren't working in my bedroom and the whole house. Plus, my thermostat and my garage door weren't working. First, I asked AHS for a thermostat person, but they told me that they don't do that. They said I needed to call the electrician. So, I called the electrician. He came and he checked everything. He found some of the breakers were bad and he told me that he was going to order them. His name was Tyler and he was wonderful. He was also very friendly and helpful.

Tyler told me to send the tech for the heater to the attic when he comes out. So, when the person from the heater company came, I did that and he checked the furnace. The guy found the wires that burnt and the two other parts that were burnt. Then he left again. In a couple of days, they got the parts. And the day before yesterday, the tech came and fixed things. Thank God that the heater is working now.

American Home Shield is bad. I went ahead and then canceled my services with them. It's unfortunate. I was a good client of theirs for some time, and they had no problem billing me monthly but just the second I needed to do something and utilize their service after many years of not using it, they started giving me the runaround. One of their vendors came out that I'm still battling. I'm disputing with credit cards. And I'm considering, even if they don't answer my calls, or for whatever reason, the credit card company gives me any stuff, I might be taking them off to small claims court.

What ended up happening is American Home Shield just really follows the standard notes that they have to read with their virtual people that are overseas. And they never answer the question. They dance around certain things. I'm a very direct, very logical person, asking very direct and logical questions. And it's always, “Oh, we're so sorry for the trouble. We understand. But we can't do anything.” Their first vendor that came out that I'm battling right now had to come out three times to diagnose the issue. Now, that's okay. It happens. I understand. The problem is, is the first two times they came out and charged me for it, they didn’t even look. They didn't even open up my AC unit. They nearly said, “Oh, it's the Freon.”

This is something I'm gonna be taking up with the EPA, because I recently found out with Climatech, which is their vendor, what they did is a big no-no. I found out from another company that serviced my unit after, that what they did, is borderline illegal. They're not allowed to do it because it leaked Freon out of code. Thank you. And they're not illegal. Out of code. So, my Freon apparently was just depleted. There was no Freon in the tank. So, what that vendor did is basically fill up a full tank without doing any leak test, without doing anything that is part of their code. And they just charged me like $700 and they left. And then a week later, all that Freon evaporated and disappeared. And I had to call them back.

So, I called American Home Shield. And I'm like, “Listen, guys, I'm still having issues. And I really didn't like the guy that came out.” But they're like, “No problem.” We have to use the same person because within 30 days. My major issue is some of their policies are set to just benefit the company and not the actual consumer. It's common practice among these home warranty companies. But when you ask them to deviate, some of them will deviate. American Home Shield just got too big for their own good where they just don't care. Even the hundreds of pending lawsuits that they have, they don't care. They'll fight it with their attorneys.

My breaker keeps tripping from the refrigerator. Initially, an appliance place came out and they replaced the control board. And then the breaker was still tripping. They just stopped responding. So, then I got referred to 3 Boys. They came out the initial time and inspected it, and they said that they would do the ice maker. They said, sometimes, that's what's the cause of it. They replaced that, and they came out this most recent time because the breaker still tripped. The tech looked and said that the fan in the refrigerator looks like it's frozen. So, he took off the defrost mechanism and he said that they were going to submit the thing for that. He said that's the only other thing that they can think of that's wrong with it. If not that, they don't know what it is yet. I don't have any complaints at all about them. They were very thorough. They explained what they were doing, and they have been responsive.

The process has been easy but frustrating, and it's frustrating because the problem still isn't resolved. I don't have use of my refrigerator, but I don't fault the technician because they're trying to figure out what's wrong. It's not as if they're not responding, or if it's something that they did or didn't do, they're actually taking steps to fix it. I've been with American Home Shield for three years, and this is only my second time having to use them, but this refrigerator issue has been going on since October. So, I couldn't host or even put things in my refrigerator for Thanksgiving, and now we're coming up to Christmas. It's a nightmare. But what I like most about American Home Shield is they've been responsive. Every time I've called, they have made efforts to send someone out and get it resolved. I would recommend a faster process if something is taking an extensive amount of time, particularly an essential appliance, because it does impact the quality of life.

I think American Home Shield should cover a little bit more. They covered very little of my furnace. They only covered $3,000 of the furnace. I had to finance $10,000. When I had to have a new stove when I first bought my place, they covered the whole thing. I thought that was with everything, but evidently, it's not. American Home Shield is a good company, but only if you do it with little appliances and things like that.

Alpha Plumbing has very unprofessional people. Their guy was very rude. He would not try to listen to anything I was telling him. He was coming up with his own theory of something that was definitely not happening. He was trying to tell us that the bathtub overflowed which it never did, and the water damage came from the upstairs by the tub overflowing and that was a lie. The other company came out with the water restoration people that American Home Shield sent. He was also saying some things that weren't true. He had a machine and it was not picking up anything. It was not good. State Farm came out the next day, and they assessed the damage because I wasn't happy with it. The girl downstairs wanted her insurance to take over. So, I just said, "Okay. Fine with me." But if anything happens, it's up to her insurance because the people from Home Shield didn't do a good job at all.

When I first submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I told them that I had a plumbing issue. When they came out and said there were no leaks and it wasn't a plumbing issue, that was a silver lining. So, I said, "Well, if nothing is leaking, can you tell me where the water is coming from?" They couldn't tell me. The only theory he had was the tub overflowed. I told him that never happened and he said, "Well, that's what I'm putting in my report." I said, "Well, you can put whatever you want to put in it, but I'm letting you know now I'm not standing by that because that never happened." I'm not satisfied at all. I was getting no heat and then over time, the furnace wasn't working at all. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. It was relatively simple to do. American Home Shield reached back out and got people out there in a timely fashion. The complicated piece didn't come into place until when you're expecting to get a decision on how things went. When the first guy came out, he gave me the diagnosis of what it was. They said, “Hey, it's gonna have to be completely replaced.”

I was initially waiting to get an idea of how much the cash in lieu would have been. But when you go there, it only gives the option initially of you paying the repairs required to get their people back in and then you would have to double. So, essentially, it was a partial approval. From there, you have to call in to say, “No. I don't wanna work with the people,” for them to then put how much the item is worth that you're throwing out, essentially. That part was the complicated piece. Separate from that, everything else was pretty smooth. The contractor was outstanding. No problem with them whatsoever.

With American Home Shield, the ability to do the claim on the app is definitely a big plus of not having to call in in specific hours. But they could provide call center hours on the weekends and/or decisions to be approved on the weekends. That would definitely get past the anxiety for anybody who may be unsure of how it's gonna go, instead of having to wait through the entire weekend for that decision.

When I first attempted to start the service, they provided electronic insurance for your electronics in your home. Later on, I went to add that on, and it wasn't available. But that was not particularly explained early on when it's offered to you the first time. That was something that I definitely wanted to add on to the plan once I saw how well and how simple things went for the overall appliance warranties. At that point in time, it made me be more comfortable with these other items to try to use those. But now, it's not even available to me.

We don't go get the parts there. I gotta go to where we get our parts." So, they didn't end up coming until after Thanksgiving. It took 13 days.

Once they got the parts, the guy came out and he was very efficient, took care of everything, and was quick, too. The whole issue was them taking so long to get the parts. There's a place three miles from my house. They deal with the part, but they said they can't get them anywhere. They have to get them through their supplier. Other than that, everything was good.

The price has gone up in over the 20 years I've had American Home Shield but it's still fair. When I did a claim, I explained to them I had to work and they said they could have someone between 10:00 and 2:00. The young man got here at 1:00. He was very polite and professional. He went upstairs, came down and told me what was wrong. He repaired a light bulb in my attic for me. I normally go online when filing a claim with American Home Shield but it was a little confusing with the way they wrote something on the website. I didn't see the service I needed. They said plumbing but it didn't say anything about water heater so I called. But that was the first time I didn't see that.

American Home Shield called me with the quote for me to pay $4,600 out of pocket for a code and inspection. They also offered to pay for the heat pump and installation. $4,600 is probably more than a heat pump, so I was thrown back by that. So, AHS told me they would pay me a cash-out option where they would just give me the cost of the heat pump and the installation, which they couldn't disclose. I'm not happy with the whole situation. $4,600 is a lot of money. We're waiting on them to send us this check they talked about so I could get my family heat. We've been without heat since the Saturday before that. And it’s Christmastime. I'm very dissatisfied.

Since I've had American Home Shield, I've been happy. We called them recently for the microwave that wouldn't heat anything. They responded quickly, letting me there was not a repair person right in my vicinity. I live up in the mountains and there's nobody in the town of Prescott that does appliance repair. But American Home Shield kept me informed and reached out to a guy who's at least 40 minutes away. He came out and said the motherboard had blown a fuse. He didn't know if American Home Shield would say buy a new microwave but he said they might be able to find a new board for the back.

A couple of weeks went by and about the time I started wondering what was going on, he called me and said that American Home Shield mailed him a new board for the back. He came out that day and replaced it. Now it works like a brand-new microwave. We're glad they found the new board for the back because this microwave matches our other appliances, and we got to keep it.

American Home Shield is doing very well and I would recommend them to anyone else. The customer service reps always answer the calls promptly and follow up. The contractor is currently working on my air conditioning system. The techs came in and discovered that they needed a part. They said they would order and get back to me last week. I spoke to them yesterday and the young lady I spoke to advised me that the part had been ordered and they're waiting for it to come in. As soon as it does, they will give me a follow-up call to come in and finish the repairs. So, I'm satisfied with them.

I've had problems with some of the techs that AHS has sent out but overall, they've been good. I had one bad experience with the plumber who came in to look at my disposal unit because it was not working properly. That particular company said that I had a leak and they would not work on the disposal unit until that was remedied, which was not true. They tried to redirect me to a company that was going to charge me quite a sum to make some repairs that weren't necessary. My wife spoke to the rep from American Home Shield and they sent another contractor. The tech replaced the unit right away with no problem.

I'm happy with the price I'm paying for what AHS is doing for me. The coverage is good. Sometimes customers just don't read all the fine print. Most recently, I had an electrician who did some light work and I didn't understand that they were not responsible for a ceiling fixture. But I have no problem with the follow-up and response with AHS. But on rare occasions, the people who work for them might not do the job like they should have or not represent themselves properly.

I've had American Home Shield for quite a while. Recently, I had a Profile fridge that went out. American Home Shield sent the first guy. They said, “Hey, all you gotta do is put the setting for the freezer to max because you hit it on the lower side or medium side. And you'll be fine. You can call me in three days if it doesn't happen.” We hit that setting before he came here because we've been fighting the freezer for a while everywhere. So, we knew what the results would be. We kept it on max because we had lost about $300 worth of seafood. It was in the freezer, so it went bad. We told that to American Home Shield. American Home Shield sent another company called AVA. They came over. They sent a nice guy. He said what the problem was and he took it apart. The freezer has a leak. It should come down to a certain temperature. It won't because of the leak.

The guy said, “We'll come back, two of us, because you need two people. And we have to empty the system, fix the leak, and then throw it up again. And it should be good.” I said, “Will that be probably the cost of a new fridge?” He said, “No. This fridge would still work well. And it's served its purpose. But the leak has to be fixed.” He showed me the frozen area of the tubing where it was frozen and had ice all around it there. He took the guts out and he showed me. He put everything back.

American Home Shield took about a week or two. They called me. I kept on asking, “What's going on?” They said, “Oh, we haven't gotten the results from the company, from the technician.” I said, “Yes, we have. They told me that he had to rework that leak in the freezer. That's why the freezer, it wasn't making ice either.” When the guy came and opened the back of the freezer up and exposed the leak and he showed me, he said, “I'm gonna take the ice out. And it's gonna get a little better. But it's not gonna make ice or get it down as cold as it needs to be.”

The third guy pulled the fridge out and he looked on the back. I said, “What happened to the two people who are supposed to come and pull a vacuum and recharge the system after it's fixed? Because it's got a leak in the freezer tubing there. And I was shown the part.” The guy said, “No. We're just gonna check this other stuff. It's really got a problem with the compressor and got the hoses a leak as you can see.” I didn't know what he was doing in the back, but we never saw the leak before.

Right after that, I kept on calling. I said, “Did you come up with a decision? I know that the company has told me that they gave you a decision, but they went and, again, sent a third guy. And he came up and said, 'Your coils are dirty, so we're not gonna pay for it.” So, this service guy never checked the coils. I've been cleaning the coils at least every six months. I got a long brush. I go in. I got more than one fridge, and I know it can be a big problem. American Home Shield did a flip-flop on me, from the decent human being that they have and those staff that came and found the right problem.

When the guy showed me the leaking coil in the back of the freezer, all of a sudden, the problem went away. I said, “Well, did you authorize at least some kind of a buyout or something if it is a big job?” They said, “The problem is your coils, that your coils are dirty.” That was a big rotten lie. So, my wife and I were gonna write to the Arizona Attorney General and let him know about American Home Shield starting this.

When we had a diverter issue and a hose bib issue with our water, the contractor took a while to come out. But it was not on American Home Shield. They can put the order of dispatch in, but they can't make the people come as soon as we need them. American Home Shield did their part and eventually, we got the job done. We're happy with it.

The disconnect sometimes is when you speak to a person that has an accent, it happens often that they don't understand what you're saying and vice versa. There's a language barrier sometimes when you first call into American Home Shield to try to get a dispatch. Sometimes they don't get the issue. In addition to that, they wanna make a determination without fully understanding the issue. There have been times when I was on the phone trying to explain something, and we weren't getting anywhere. I would get frustrated and pass the phone to my wife for her to handle. There were times when I lost my patience too because they didn't understand what I was trying to say. Nonetheless, it all went through and I wouldn't trade American Home Shield for anything right now. I appreciate them.

I live in a house that has over 4,000 square feet. Some rooms get cold, and some rooms are not. One of the things I was trying to do was to figure out if American Home Shield will cover cleaning my ductwork. But it's not covered. However, my HVAC systems are covered if I have that particular contract. There's a good contract and there's a great contract that works on your roof. If you don't know what you have and don't use it all year long then you try to get something done, you then realize that you don't have the right plan. That could be a problem.

I was trying to get American Home Shield to tell me, given my warranty package, would someone be able to come out here and clean my vents. They said they could work on the HVAC system if it was broken, but they don't do preventative maintenance, which is what I need. You wanna do preventive maintenance so that you don't have to spend those hundreds and thousands of dollars. I'm fortunate because I have American Home Shield, but there are other people that don't. However, we were paying $65 a month and without any explanation that jumped up to $120 a month.

My air conditioner wasn't working. When the contractor came out, they called me back and said that it was shot and that I would have to pay. They were gonna get a new system and that American Home Shield had to order it, and they had to give them what to order. Not knowing the details, I assumed that it was a replacement. When I asked, they said it was. When they installed the unit, I had no clue. I went out and asked if it was gonna work like my previous unit. They said it was gonna be better and that it was gonna save me on my bills. I had to pay 2,850 that was not covered by American Home Shield. They got it going but it still seemed hot. The heat would not cut off, so I didn't have air. I had to go through the weekends. I stayed at a hotel because there was no way I could stay in there as hot as it was at that time. They came back out and fixed it.

Then I called back again for a leak from the ceiling. But I had to have an attorney to get them to pay for that ceiling. They sent a check and wrote "proposed damage" but there was no proposed damage. I called in for another service and I thought it was a heat pump. AHS charged me another $100, which I then told the lady I didn't think that was fair. The contractor refused to come back out. Another company came out and they were excellent. The guy said, "The problem is it's wired for a heat pump and you don't have a heat pump. They left all your strips up there." They changed the wires, took off the wiring for a heat pump and did it manually for air and heat.

I called back and wanted to complain. I purposely got this home warranty to keep me from being scammed. Now, I feel like I've been scammed. I put out about $3000 and still don't have what I needed. American Home Shield is good but they should hire contractors that wanna do the job for the customer. When my air went out before, they didn't change everything out. It was just the condenser. The repairman was so rude and it took forever to get the system. They were saying they were waiting on American Home Shield to approve the part. Then I got a lower-grade system. They said it's a Rheem, but it's not. It's a Bryant. My house is about 1987 square feet.

But overall, American Home Shield has worked out well. I've been with them for over 20 years and though the rates have gone up, I'd rather pay somebody $100 than to pay somebody $200 or $300 and they don't even do anything for me. Customer service-wise, they have some reps that are hard to understand, but they have others that are great.

I had to have my heat pump replaced. It was in September that I had problems with it the first time. The contractor would be able to get it fixed, and for a short time it would work then a different issue would go wrong. American Home Shield sent them out a couple of times and they said it was too fried to do any repairs on it. It was too dangerous so American Home Shield approved getting me a new heat pump. I had that installed and it went really well. The contractor, the Comfort Pros, was good. I was very pleased with them and the job they did. However, it was not easy for them to get approval from American Home Shield to do a replacement. They'd rather have them just keep patching it. But it was a 17-year-old unit, so it really needed to be replaced instead of repaired.

Before that, my washing machine had issues. It took five times before the contractor was able to fix it. The repairman told me that what he ended up doing was replacing all the internal parts of the washer. He said he figured it probably cost American Home Shield more to repair all of it than to replace it. It was aggravating because for a long time, I had to go to the laundromat. That was a very big nuisance, not having a washing machine to utilize.

But I've been very pleased with the contractors with American Home Shield. The only thing that I had said at one point was the people they got to get the washing machine fixed were from Lake South Carolina. It was a two-hour drive for them to get here. They should try and find more local contractors to our area. The guys that were here with the heat pump were from Arden, which is just south of Asheville. That was not near as far away for them to be making the trip to take care of that. But for a few times, American Home Shield would send somebody from way out there which doesn't make sense when there are plenty of contractors in the area.

Since I've had this plan with American Home Shield in 2018, the price has gone up exponentially every single year, regardless of my dispute of it or the fact that I've been a loyal customer of theirs. It went from 600 to 800 some dollars a year and that's a lot of money. I've recommended them to other people because they cover everything, but I warned them about the price. Because of the heat pump, it was worth it this time. But years past when I didn't have anything going on, it wasn't paying for itself.

I put in three different requests. I put in one for the roof, and they fixed the roof. I put in one for plumbing, and they fixed the toilet. But sometimes, with the people that American Home Shield sends out, you have to make sure that they're doing what they're supposed to do. It's a shame you have to watch people like a hawk when they come into your house.

Once American Home Shield sent the company for the furnace that kept going on and off, I did a review check and they didn't have good reviews. I called American Home Shield to see if I could change it to a different person but I was gonna have to let them come on out. When they came on out, they did just what the review said. The repairman said he needed $180 to change the thermostat out. He was playing with the furnace, trying to take something off. He said American Home Shield was not gonna replace it. He took a thing off the wall and said it was a bad one too. He said, "When they put this in, they knew that that thermostat wasn't good. You could order one off Amazon, send them back the bad one then I can come back and put it on." He was running game the whole time but I gotta go with them because American Home Shield said I had to.

When I, the customer, requested to go ahead and switch out contractors because of bad reviews, it should have been switched. I called American Home Shield and asked if they could send the people that worked on my other unit in the back of the house the past summer, and they said yes. They came out Friday and were supposed to be back with the parts they need. Overall, it's been good with American Home Shield. The other people that came here have good reviews and they did what they were supposed to do.

He also replaced the light bulbs inside my refrigerator. All of the lights weren’t on and they weren’t working properly. There was also a little broken cover on my microwave. When you open the door, the cover would fall off. So, he ordered a piece and fixed that. American Home Shield usually sends somebody within a couple of days but a while back, it took almost a month. But the last couple of times, it only took them a day or two to get someone out here. This one guy named Mike was here on most of my calls. Every once in a while, AHS would send someone else, but Mike usually take care of all of my appliances and service calls that I call about.

I've been satisfied with AHS over the years. I've had them for quite a while. But they need to drop the service fee a little bit. It’s $100 just to make a call. And sometimes, I have things that are broken that I can't get fixed right away. I have to wait because it wouldn't be worth $100 for them to come out to fix. My refrigerator lights were blown for months, and I just used a flashlight. Then it started leaking water and my microwave broke. So, it was time for me to make the call. But if the service fee would have been a little bit less, then I probably would have called that in earlier.

CK Appliance Repair was the fourth one that came out here through American Home Shield for the refrigerator and the last man who came replaced the whole back piece. He told me that the refrigerator should work within 24 hours. But in 24 hours, the refrigerator was still warm so I called back and told them that. The man came and went under the freezer part. It was working but some kind of line was frozen and it was stopping the air from flowing to the top. We needed to unplug the refrigerator for 24 to 48 hours so it could thaw out. And once it thaws out, we can cut it back on and the fan should blow the air. We did what the man said and the refrigerator has been working since then.

I made the claim at the end of the week part of September and when I called, I told the lady the refrigerator wouldn't cool and that I needed this fixed as soon as possible because I was about to have major surgery and I needed my refrigerator. It took over a month for the tech to come and fix it. AHS sent four different companies out here and everybody said something different each time. It was never the same thing.

The first company that came said it was the fan and the man put a new fan in. Then somebody else came after he put the fan and the refrigerator was still warm and the man said something else must be going on. He said somebody else was gonna have to come out. And somebody else came. He put his notes into AHS but everything kept taking the process and everything took a long time, especially when it came to getting a part. It was time to have my surgery and my refrigerator was still not fixed. And the same day that I had my surgery, AHS called.

When CK came out, the man came with the first piece but it was the wrong size. So he had to reorder that. Everything was taking over a week to get and the lady would call me on a Wednesday and say the part came in, but the tech couldn't come out till Monday. So that meant I was still without my refrigerator. Then, when we talked to the last man from CK, I said that all this time, nobody checked that part that he was saying was frozen. The other techs put those parts and it still wasn't cool in the refrigerator. But once we thawed it out, then the air started flowing. So we probably didn't even need those parts. But the CK man said they don't normally check that part where it was frozen.

My glass top, electric stove has one big eye and there are three settings on it. If I put it on two, it goes straight to high heat. The man said those switches sometimes go bad. He ordered the piece and he put it in and the stove is working fine. AHS covers your appliances and I like it. It's just the process sometimes takes longer. With this refrigerator, a month is too long. I got other stuff fixed in here through them and it didn't take as long as this. This was the worst one.

I talked to somebody from American Home Shield and whoever that customer service person was, she kept apologizing, but she wasn't fixing my issues. So, I asked to speak to a supervisor. She connected me to somebody and the two of them were saying the same thing. They were talking about my contract. And I said the contract says it would be fixed in 30 days. But it's longer than 30 days. And then, AHS sent four different companies out here. That's a problem for me. Then, they all were saying the same thing but it was different parts. I ended up with two different pieces getting put on my refrigerator. So AHS needs to improve its communication.

If you’re considering American Home Shield for a home warranty, I strongly advise against it based on my experience. I faced a roof leakage issue, and AHS sent a roofing company. A week later of repair, it was again leaking after the rain. AHS sent the same company three more times, but despite their repeated assurances, the issue was never resolved. After a month of frustration, I decided to hire a reputable roofing company independently, only to be told by AHS that I’d have to pay another service fee to reopen the same claim.

I had another leak related to the HVAC exhaust pipe on the roof. AHS charged me a separate service fee and sent a plumbing company, which was completely unqualified for the job. The plumbers admitted they couldn’t fix it and recommended calling an HVAC specialist. When I contacted AHS, they refused to send an HVAC professional unless I made a new service request and paid yet another fee.

This entire experience has been a nightmare. AHS seems to prioritize collecting service fees over resolving issues effectively. They repeatedly sent contractors who were either unable to fix the problems or who failed to address them after multiple attempts. Their policy of charging additional fees for unresolved or related issues feels like a scam.

If you’re looking for a reliable home warranty company, do not choose American Home Shield. Their lack of accountability, poor contractor management, and unreasonable service fee policies make them a poor choice. Save your money and avoid the frustration. I hope this review helps others avoid the mistakes I made.

One of the filters on our main pool filter had gone bad. It allowed DE which is the material that is used to filter whatever out of the pool water. It went bad and we were getting DE back into the pool. We've had that happen three years ago. So, we called American Home Shield. They wanted to send one company out. We did not want to work with that company. We had worked with them before. They are not an honest company. The first time they came out here a couple of years ago was to repair our hot water heater, which was covered. They said that, "Your hot water heater is bad. You need to replace it. It's gonna be about $3,000." I said, "What do you mean I need to replace it? I need it repaired." "No, I can't repair it. It's too far gone."

I tried arguing with AHS. They said, "The way that the contractor wrote it up, it's not covered." "I don't care how they wrote it up. It's covered." I had to pay for another company to come out. They said, "No, you don't need a new hot water heater. We'll repair it for you." They did and it still works to this day. I told AHS, "I can't believe you're doing business with that company. Just look on Yelp or anywhere else. They have 1.5 star ratings. Horrible." That was the same company AHS wanted to send out this time. I said, "No, I don't trust them." They either don't know what they're doing or they constantly try to upsell." AHS said, "Sure, we'll send a different company." They did. A gentleman came out and fixed our pool filter. I would never do business with AHS again if they insisted that company to come. I like AHS as a company. It's worth the money for me. It's getting a little expensive these days. But what isn't?

I've had AHS in the past when I owned a larger home and it was very beneficial. It turns out that it's very beneficial for my townhome as well. I'm pleased. Dealing with American Home Shield, I had no issues. There was a little bit of misunderstanding with the receptionist person who scheduled the techs. But other than that, it was fine.

When our thermostat wasn't working for our furnace, American Home Shield sent out a technician from York Mechanical Services. The board was burned out on the thermostat and the technician took it off and said, "Yeah, this is no good." He fixed it within five minutes. We use York Mechanical Services all the time and I can't complain about them at all. They're very good. If they have to, they'll call the boss. If they're stuck, they have no problems with calling and getting a second opinion. There were times when the technician would come over and just see what's going on. So when I call American Home Shield, I ask for them. If they assign me to somebody else, I call and say, "No, I want you to change that. I want York Mechanical Services."

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield and I have. I love my home warranty. People say, "I never do that," and I say, "Well, you're nuts because I wouldn't buy a house without it." I'm being honest. I have a brother who's had an American Home Shield warranty on his house for about 15 years now and he says the same thing. They're great and he cannot complain.

The service company came out for three faucet leaks and one pipe leak, but they only fixed one thing when they came out. They took the short route out. They didn't wanna cut holes in walls and just said whatever. They replaced one faucet. The other faucet had the same exact issue, but they didn't replace it. They also didn't replace the faucet for the washer for the same reason. For the pipe leak that's behind the wall, they cut two holes and it was in the wrong place, so they left them open. The hot water pipe and the other two faucets still leak. The service company said they can't do anything because American Home Shield told them not to and that the leaks were caused by hard water. That was the reason they told me that American Home Shield denied fixing those things, but we do not have hard water in our system.

I can't give American Home Shield a low enough number right now, but it's a minus 10 for the last year. We've had it for the last eight years, and the one before that, we had it 20 years. I'm really sick and I'm fixing to cancel the crap. They owe me $300 for a buyout on my washing machine three years ago. I still haven't received that money. I also had a gas leak that they wouldn't come out and take on emergency basis. I had to hire somebody to come out and pay them $900 to fix the gas leak.

I had a window between 11:00 to 2:00, and they came out at noon. It was quick.

I had a claim recently for my air conditioner and American Home Shield assigned someone else. They came out and told me it was covered by American Home Shield and left. Two days later, they called and said it would be about 300 dollars for Freon. It was a lot and they didn't tell me that. They should tell the person how much it's gonna be before they do the service and then expect to be paid. What if I didn't have that? That was the only thing.

My last claim with American Home Shield went well, but I lost myself some Christmas money. The problem that I had over the weekend apparently repaired itself. My washer stopped and had a smell to it because the blanket that was in the washing machine was stuck and caused the motor to keep trying, which then had the burning smell. When we removed the blanket, the water was still in the machine and it wouldn't drain. We unplugged it, plugged it back in, tried to drain it, and it did not work. We left it unplugged over the weekend and the water in it. When the serviceman came, all he had to do was plug it in and it worked. I'm happy, but not happy. I should have just waited till Monday and messed around with it over the weekend because I spent my Saturday at the laundromat and finished my clothes.

The gentleman tried to be thorough and called another associate to find out what the issue could be and got some advice to check the wires. He looked behind the machine, under it, and then the panel and he said none of the wires looked bad. He was very responsive and tried to fix it, but it already fixed itself. A couple weeks prior to this, I had a claim for my dishwasher and that was good too. The service person did the job accurately. Both of the repair gentlemen were professional, on time, called ahead and explained the situation.

We have American Home Shield's Gold plan which is a good plan. Their website is easy to navigate and their technicians have always been nice, knowledgeable and respectful. The only thing is sometimes, I have to talk to someone overseas and I don't feel that that's always as good as talking to someone right here who's familiar with the issue. Also, I'd rather the cost be a little less.

Recently, our garbage disposal developed a crack along a seam so it leaked a lot of water into the cabinet. I scheduled the appointment on Friday after Thanksgiving then on Sunday, I got a text from AM PM Plumbing saying they could come out on Monday, which was great. They came out on Monday and determined that, yes, it has a big crack at the back, and they replaced it. They were in and out in less than an hour and were very professional. We were really happy. Sometimes, it's not as quick of a response as I would hope, but in this case, it was quicker than I imagined it would be. One time though, we had a problem with the water heater. The contractor had to come out and try numerous things before American Home Shield finally agreed to replace it.

They said it was not hot enough and they couldn't do anything or give me a different company. I tried to call Remy and left a voicemail, but they didn't answer. I called American Home Shield at least 10 times complaining and they themselves tried to call. It took almost another week for Remy to come out and look at my AC unit, then it took them another week to submit their report. American Home Shield called them at least four times and they got no answer either.

American Home Shield told me that they would try to see if they could get it rectified and they still didn't get any answer. When they finally got an answer, they told me they're not paying for it. They denied my claim. The tech said the issue wasn't wear and tear. I thought, "Are you kidding me?" When I called the number for AHS, my concern was to make sure that it was covered, that it wasn't a clicker problem. They assured me that it was covered if it was the actual garage device that was not taking any of the codes.

The repairman who came out was awesome. Before he even got started, he looked at the entire door to make sure there were no issues. Then he started figuring out what the issue was with the garage opener. I was happy because he explained everything along the way. He looked through the entire system and made sure everything was working properly. He also explained how I can do some maintenance on it on my own. The only issue was he came at the last minute. They gave me 2:00 to 3:00, and he showed up at 2:45.

I had another company that came out for the garage. Immediately, when they showed up, they were trying to tell me what things didn't meet requirements and they couldn't fix the door because those things needed to be fixed first. I ended up paying an extra 300 some dollars that was why I requested a different company recently. They were rude too.

I went online to the mobile app and put in there what the problem was. The shower knob had stopped working and there was no water coming out. I needed to have someone come out and take a look at it. A plumber from Neely Brothers Construction & Plumbing came out and determined that it was the cylinder that had gone bad. They took the shower knob, replaced the cylinders, put it back together, and it started working.

However, the company before Neely was trash. They tried to rip me off. I'm an insurance agent, so I understand what claims are. I understand what are covered items and what are not. There was no reason for them to state that it was from neglect and abuse, and they wanna charge me $1,800 to repair the same items. When I called that contractor after I received the email about items not covered, I immediately knew this was a bogus. I called back to American Home Shield, stated that it was clearly a mistake and that I was going to file a complaint. They asked me if I'd like to get a second opinion to which I said yes because it was a wear and tear from a house that's just reached its 10th year. It wasn't a neglect situation.

I had another similar situation last year. There was something going on with the heat and air. It wasn't blowing cold air. Someone came out and gave me an estimate which was $3,000. They hit the wrong guy because I've been an insurance agent for 19 years. They didn't pull this one off on me but they're pulling it off on other people.

But I've had a few claims on stuff that broke and American Home Shield took care of it. The biggest challenge with them has been with the communication with the contractors when you make the claim and when someone gets in touch with you. That could be a little bit better. Also, the plans that they offer could be more simplified. I don't know why they have three plans. On one plan, you get unlimited freon, and on the other one, you get a roof coverage. If you're buying a warranty, it should be more of a one-size-fits-all because I don't think the average person really understands it. But their website is pretty decent. That's probably the highlight for me ‘cause I'm a very tech person.

Lanham's Plumbing put in a sewage pump for us a little over a year ago. A couple of weeks ago, the same plumber came out. The pipe that connected the pump to the sewage pipe that goes out to the city had disconnected from the pump. When the plumber originally put the new pump in, he replaced the plumbing that went with it, including that pipe. But they told us that the pipe was not guaranteed so instead of replacing that and not charging us, they told us that they would have to charge us $115 to pump out the sewage then $300 to replace the pipe. They told us that if we didn't pay, they were gonna leave it as is, torn apart, on our yard.

That is no way to treat a customer and have customer service. It was a holiday weekend and there was nothing else we could do. What we thought was gonna be the $125 that we paid to American Home Shield to get the issue fixed turned out to be almost $700. On a holiday weekend when you're not expecting that, it's not right. On top of everything else, they buried their van in my yard and had to have a truck to pull it out and left for ruts in my yard. I will never use Lanham's Plumbing company again. American Home Shield did what they were supposed to do but we are thinking if we're gonna cancel our policy because of this.

So, I paid $125 to learn how to trip. Last time, I had issues in our bedroom where my light in the hall kept going in and out. I asked for someone to come out, but my light would turn on before Turner Electric would be able to come out. The light has to be out in order to do it, so I had to cancel the request. That ended up getting fixed by my brother.

The other thing was I had an issue with the water heater and that was the same issue. I was never told at that time that it had to be out. There was a loud noise coming from the pool equipment. I turned it off immediately and called American Home Shield. They sent out a company that told me one thing but when they got back to American Home Shield, they told them something totally different. They told me it should be covered but told American Home Shield that I had abused my pumps and that there was no water in them. That's not true. There was water in them and I did not abuse them. I turned them off immediately when hearing the sound and there was no corrosion or deterioration to the pump.

I told American Home Shield that I could send them pictures to show those were not true. They said, “No, we need a second opinion,” which was frustrating. I had to call them back several times before they submitted a second evaluation, and that was when Archer Pools came. They were wonderful. They allowed me to film them and the conversation because I knew my husband wanted to know about it. They were efficient and very thorough. They did everything that the first company did not do. They ended up taking everything apart and looking at everything. They examined the pool, took pictures of the pump and turned it on. They determined that it was a motor issue in the pump and that a new motor would need to be done. We have one pump for the pool and another pump for the Jacuzzi, and in that other pump, there were some other parts as well.

American Home Shield covers things that are minor. But this summer, our air conditioning went out and they didn't wanna replace it. After arguing with them, they replaced it. But they sent me a letter saying that they aren't going to replace it in the future. They do what's called zone air conditioning which means you have one unit for your house, and you can air condition different zones by doing the temperature different on the thermostat so you have multiple thermostats. They should charge more for people that have zone air conditioning monthly if that's the case, but their HVAC people are saying that because of the square footage of my home, I shouldn't have zone air conditioning.

American Home Shield shouldn't pick and choose. They can charge more by asking questions upfront and let the homeowner decide, but they can’t, once we have been paying for seven years on this warranty, then decide to not cover it and try to find some minor thing in the policy that will allow them to legally not cover something. They cover a lot, and I like the ability to pick and choose what I want covered but they gave me a hard time with the air conditioner, the pool and a couple other things. They should change their online system so that when a company comes out to do an evaluation and they make comments, we should be able to see the comments that they make to American Home Shield on why they don't cover. Another thing is we should be able to refute it before a second opinion, like take pictures and upload them.

American Home Shield had a promotion going on for the first year. It was $600 for the year, and I took it. They cover more items than my previous provider, which is an umbrella company of American Home Shield. With American Home Shield, I like that the process of scheduling something online is very easy to do. You can do it in less than a minute on your phone, on a website. However, American Home Shield relies on contractors, and some contractors are more knowledgeable than others, even with the same company. You may have somebody who's been doing it for 20 years or somebody who has been doing it for two years. There are different skill levels and that's not American Home Shield's fault.

Recently, I called them and explained to the rep what the issue was. I told her it was multiple switches that were not working, not just one switch, and she put the claim in. The only issue I had was she didn't understand what I was trying to explain, and I had to repeat myself several times. But the technician American Home Shield sent out was good. He replaced three bad switches, and they're functioning perfectly now.

I tried to reach him but couldn't. But the owner called that same night and they fixed it the next morning. The experience was unsatisfactory at first, but they took care of it.

I called in first to see what I needed to do, because that would be my first time doing it. But once I found out exactly what I needed to do from one of the customer service representatives, it was easy. As soon as I put the claim in, American Home Shield was on it. They got somebody to come out here before Thanksgiving. That was a good thing. Another contractor came out first, and they determined that it was an HVAC issue. When Leggums came out, they determined that it wasn't an HVAC issue. It was a plumbing issue. AHS switched back to the first contractor. When the previous contractor came back out, they cut into the ceiling and saw that it was an actual leak from the plumbing. They told me that they would send someone to patch up the ceiling, but I haven't heard anything. I have a small hole in my ceiling.

After I get my dryer fixed, I'm gonna cancel my American Home Shield. My friends said those warranty companies are such a rip-off. I said I got a new dishwasher and dryer from AHS. We've had them for a few years and we've never had any problem until lately. Our water heater broke. It has been with the house when we purchased it. The house was new at the time. So, it has been a few years old. AHS sent HomeServ out. The tech came out and told us, "I don't understand why you have this warranty company because they're not gonna pay for this. 'Cause this is just normal wear and tear."

I said, "That's not our understanding. We had a 20-year-old refrigerator at one point that the icemaker wasn't working. They replaced the refrigerator just because the icemaker wasn't working. It was 20 years old." He said, "I don't know if things have changed, but every customer I have, they say that they wish they didn't have the warranty, that it doesn't save them any money."

I was very surprised by that. I said, "I don't know if it's just that they don't like doing the warranty." He said, "We just find that almost every person lately that has had work done say they want the technicians to write down that it's from normal wear and tear so they don't have to pay for it." I don't know if that's true. But AHS didn't pay anything for our water heater. We had to replace it ourselves. I was gonna cancel my home warranty but I didn't do it fast enough. So, I was billed for it and I thought, "I'll ride out the month and then I'll wait until the end of the month before it's due next and call and cancel it."

Our dryer went out. I called AHS today and I got to wait a week and a half for someone to come out and look at it. It's a different company. They would probably have to order a part. I don't know what they would say, if it's normal wear and tear on the dryer because it's a few years old. But my understanding is AHS is what it is for as my appliances get older.

I told AHS what was going on and said, "Even your tech that you sent out here or that was sent out by HomeServ told us we shouldn't even have the warranty." The lady kept saying, "I'll let you speak with a supervisor." She came back and said, "We're only allowed to hold for 10 minutes or eight minutes waiting for a supervisor. And the supervisor didn't pick up, so we'll have one call you back." Nobody did.

I had to follow up and call AHS back to see if somebody made an appointment. And with the first tech that came out for my water heater, he said someone would be here tomorrow to put the new water heater in. My husband and I said, "What are we gonna do? We gotta get a water heater. It's been five days without water." I called the next day because it was 4:30 and I haven't heard anything from anybody and they said, "I don't know why the tech told you that. We didn't schedule anything for you." We had to wait two days for the guy to come out. That was the gentleman that said, "I don't know why you have this warranty. I would never have a warranty. They are terrible. They won't cover anything if it's just normal wear and tear."

When I spoke with the rep about that, he said, "They didn't cover it because it was normal wear and tear. They didn't cover it because they had to modify something." When it's a water heater, it has to be in code. I don't understand all that stuff. I said, "That should be figured in, shouldn't it? It's 18 years old. Rules change." But they didn't cover one cent of it.

I had two claims with American Home Shield, but I've seen three claims for some reason. One was when we had a sink issue in our secondary bathroom sink. It leaked. The other one was the water heater. The thermostat blew. I did the claim online and got a call back from the provider and explained to them what was the matter with the heater. They came out. I switched the breaker. It overheated and threw off sparks. I wasn't here when they came the second time. My son was here but he didn't know what was going on. He was there to let them in. So, the guy came and switch the breaker back on and left. I called them later that day and I said, "Your office should have told you exactly what was going on." They came out a second time, three days later, and finally fixed the problem. They changed out the thermostat on the second visit.

Had they done what the problem as I described it, it would have been perfect. There are four machine screws that set this thing inside the water heater. One of them had bird marks on it. If they noticed that one in the 2 o'clock position, they could have swapped out the thermostat the first time and not had to come out a second time.

American Home Shield is a good investment. We just bought my son and daughter-in-law a one-year AHS warranty for their Christmas present for their new home, because we're happy with the service. They are good at handling claims. I appreciate that. I was very skeptical about doing them, but my stepdaughter has them. She told us we need to have it. I'm very grateful we do. I had a stove repair. One of them was my oven burner. My main eye burner went out. My washer went wonky. Everything is working right now. I am happy.

The first washer guy brought an apprentice. It weirded me out because I did not have any notice that he would come with anyone. But it ended up being a great, 100%, very happy experience. The stove claim was amazing. The tech looked and saw something. We were having an issue with our dishwasher. He said, “What's going on?” I said, “We have a leak.” He said, “Just make sure you get the right tech.”

He saw I ran a dishwasher because I tried to figure out what was going on. He asked, “What are you doing?” I said, “I have a leak.” He said, “There are two things that are going wrong with this. If it's one, it's a $34 part. If it's two, call American Home Shield will probably replace it. My dishwasher is 20 years old. He said, “No.” But the fact that I was down there, doing that, while he was working on my stove, he appreciated that I was in there doing it. I referred three other people to him that don't have AHS. That company needs to be recognized by AHS. He was great.

I put in the claim for my dryer. The purpose of me paying this warranty company every month is because I know things can happen with your appliances. So, if I pay my warranty every month and my appliance went out, I shouldn't have a problem when I report the claim to them. And it would not take any time at all to take the service fee. That has instantly been taken out of my account. I understand I have to pay my service fee. However, I kept paying this man to patch up the dryer. I'm sure American Home Shield paid him to come out to my home. It has been three times. AHS should have approved a replacement from the beginning. The tech shouldn’t have kept stringing me on saying it was repairable. As soon as he left my home, we turned on the dryer but it wouldn’t complete the whole cycle.

The first time the tech came out, he said, "It's fixed. All I had to do was take the lint container out." I said, "The lint out? Are you saying that the dryer is fixed by just taking the lint out?" He said, "It's fixed." I started the dryer up. It cut off again. So, I called him. He never responded to my call. Whenever I called AHS to let them know he does not return my calls and my dryer is still not working, they would try to call him. He doesn't answer for AHS either. They would call. It would be back and forth.

The second time he came to my house, he said, "I just have to order a part." Ordered the part. The part came in on the 14th of November. I called AHS on the 15th and confirmed that it came in on the 14th. I said, "The parts are in. Is he gonna come by and repair my dryer?" They said, "Let me try to call him." They tried to call him but he didn't answer. I waited days and days. Finally, he called back. Now the parts are in. He came back to the house and tried to fix it again. It was not repairable.

If AHS wants to continue to have customers, they would have to let that contractor go. The only time he would call me is if whenever AHS called him and told him to call me. I left many messages. He never returned any of my calls. After I reached out to the corporate office, things got better. But that was the worst experience I ever had with the warranty company. I had to send emails after emails before I got the ball rolling. It was so bad that when I called AHS, they just gave me the runaround. “We put in a request for another contractor to come out.” They never sent another contractor. It was always that same guy. I called AHS 50 times. It was a big inconvenience to me to not have my dryer when I had family members over to my house for Thanksgiving. I had to reach out to the corporate office in five calls. Two months later, I finally got a replacement dryer.

I had lost power to two sides of the wall. The tech came out and reconnected a wire on one of my plugs. Once he did that, everything started working. He was good. Then he did a follow-up with American Home Shield and told them that I needed additional work to put enough circuits on the plugs I had. But they've been like that for 30 years. So, I saw no reason to, and they said that they wouldn't cover it. It could be another $700 to $2,000.

When I had a tech come out for my AC, he was real rude. My policy says everything was covered including my Freon and I told him that the issue was covered on my policy. But he said it was not. I went around and around with that. American Home Shield ended up refunding me for the trip charge on that. But I told them straight out that the people they sent out were very rude.

I submit my claims online but the website doesn't let you type in enough information. You can only type about six words and you can't put anything else in where it asks you for an explanation of the problem. Also, what American Home Shield promised you is not what you get. I had my air conditioners worked on this past summer and they said they couldn't cover the Freon. We paid that money for them to replace the unit and they didn't seem to care.

The biggest problem I have with American Home Shield is that it's almost three days before the contractor can come out. If you have a garage door opener is not working and you can't get out of your garage or if you have a clogged drain or refrigerator aren't working, you can't wait three days, your food will spoil. But that's an issue with all of these companies, not just them.

In five years of us owning the home, I've had two claims and every one was a disaster. We dropped a bowl on the stove and it cracked the glass. American Home Shield told me they would cover it but they couldn't get me a stainless steel. All they could get me was a glass stove top. They said, "All we can give you is the generic." The ceiling fan went out, and it was because they had a water leakage from the ceiling. They told me that all they can do was contract Grades. My ceiling fans that came with my house were $275 each. They gave me a $50 ceiling fan, the one that didn't have a light. It was the most basic option. I ended up just doing cash-in-lieu for both options and paying the difference to get the same quality product.

Formula came in and said, "This is a crack," and left in 10 minutes. The next thing was I got a bill stating, "You need modification to the gas line. You need modifications to electric line. That's not covered by your policy and it's 1,700." I said, "Can I have a second opinion?" Honesty came out and said, "I see what they're saying, but they should have explained this to you." They explained the process. They told me what was going on. They were consultative. They told us that the material that AHS did was the basic option. The tech said, "I wouldn't even recommend this furnace. But if this is all that they're approving, just take it. It's fine. But I would definitely go with a different vendor."

He said that the furnace that I currently have is better than the one that they would replace it with. I don't like that practice. AHS is downgrading my house, but I pay them monthly. They told me I had to go through Formula because they offered it to them. And because the second opinion was the same as the first, they couldn't switch to the second company. AHS gave me options and the tiers of how to fix it. They said that they could repair it and it wouldn't cost $4,000.

Sometimes, when they send these jobs out, it would take a little longer for the responses. Sometimes when stuff is broken, I need it done right away. They got to go through these third party vendors, and sometimes they take longer to come out. I don't wanna wait, especially on the weekend. I would not get anybody on the weekend. But a lot of times, that is when stuff would break. I would have to wait until Monday, and it would be a hassle. Recently, the toilet ran and the contractor fixed the shut-off valve under my sink.

I have received a very poor service from American Home Shield. I have a stove that I purchased two years ago. I get the coverage from them for appliances for my house. Unfortunately, it's an electric one with a stovetop. When the stovetop cracked and opened, it happened right in front of me. I called AHS and let them know about it. They sent a tech to my house. They charged me a service fee. Sears gave me aschedule from 5:00 to 6:00, but very poor. They kept pushing it during the day. At 5:00, they texted me and said, "We're gonna have to reschedule you because the tech won't be able to make it to your house." They are not reliable. They gave me a schedule but they didn't respect it.

I said, "Okay, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. And then I called you guys about my situation a long time ago. Then what's going on? Why are you pushing it after Thanksgiving? I'm gonna need my stove. I called you guys since November 11 to make sure this problem is solved." I called AHS and told them, "I don't need Sears anymore. Send me a different company because Sears' service is not good." When the other company showed up, they said they doubt AHS would change the top for me. But they say they would put the request.

AHS called me and said that what happened to my stove was a physical damage, which is not true. They would not fix it. I told them, "As a consumer, I tell you exactly what happened. You should have given me the benefit of the doubt. You cannot just assume stuff that you don't see, you don't know. How can a top of a stove sustain a physical damage?" They just hung up the phone on me. I called again. They hung up the phone on me again. They will call back but to get the monthly payment. AHS has to look over the customer service because it seems the people want to take matters out of hand. They are not professional.

I don't know why it has been taking long to fix the problem. If the stove can be fixed, that's great.

I had a shower leak. The contractor took it off and replaced it with another showerhead. I got charged for a second visit and for the new shower. That was not right. That is pending. But I don't know why they have not fixed that. I've had furnace work done where a part was needed and the tech brought it back without an extra charge. American Home Shield has been good to me. However, I'm concerned that they have not paid the shower and put it on me for the plumber to come out and install the showerhead because it was a leak. It couldn't be repaired. But it's still a lot cheaper than having to pay out of pocket.

For my recent claim with AHS, there was a loose wire causing the breaker to trip. I got in touch with the company within a couple of days ‘cause I started the claim over the weekend then I got someone out the next day. The technician found that soon and replaced the breaker. Everything works great now. My first claim, though, was for an HVAC problem with the air handler and I waited for weeks because American Home Shield never ordered the part. The contractor, the HVAC company, was like, “Okay. We submitted everything.” But then the part was never ordered. After a couple of weeks, I called the contractor. They were able to contact American Home Shield and get them to order the part. But it took a couple of weeks longer than it probably would have. But so far, I've put in two claims and the technicians have been great.

I always call when I reach out to AHS. Turnaround time is good in terms of assigning somebody to the job. American Home Shield sent out NC Plumbing to repair my sink recently. The tech who came out was very professional. He came in, fixed the problem, explained the problem, fixed it, and left. They're professional and time-conscious oriented. I'm dealing with something now with my heat. But that's been challenging 'cause I haven't had heat for a week. But for the most part, AHS is good.

The wall oven and microwave stopped working the day after Thanksgiving and the man who came had been at my house before because appliances don't last more than five years these days. He was able to take care of the issue right away and figured out it was the circuit breaker. It just got too heated up by the oven underneath from being on all day. So, it was all good. Now, I know that if I have the oven on for a long time and it does that, I can just flip the breaker.

Generally, American Home Shield is very good. But I've been debating whether or not I should keep them because it's $100 a month and my house is only five years old. It started at 75 and it jumped. The price is a little bit high. Also, I had to buy a new refrigerator because I had somebody out too many times and it just never got fixed. I got annoyed so I had to replace a four-year-old refrigerator and that wasn't great. AHS didn’t reimburse that because you have to get the person who serviced it to say it’s not fixable.

I had running water under the slab of the house and you could hear a loud noise. I called American Home Shield and they sent a plumber. He didn’t do anything and he said he would send somebody. The next day, a guy came at around 5:30 pm to check where the line was broken. He was trying to fix it but he said he’s not able to do it because it’s too late and he will come back the next day. The next day, he came with another guy and he told me there were multiple leaks. They tried to scare me because one of the plumbers asked if I'd seen a floating house going away. I said I saw that on TV. But that's inappropriate to say to a customer who was paying for a service. After that, he said the multiple leaks would be costly and they left.

The contractor didn’t give me an estimate of how much it would cost and AHS didn't call me about the problem. I tried to reach them but nothing happened. I just spent $12,000 and they didn’t do anything. I wanted to cancel the service and the customer service told me I couldn't do that because there had to be approval from somebody else. She transferred me to another lady and she said they could give me two months free and send me back how much I paid for the co-payment. I agreed for them to send me at least that money and two months free. But after that, I will cancel.

We have a breaker that keeps on flipping so I replaced it but it didn’t fix it. So, I filed the claim with American Home Shield. The electrician came out today and he was able to locate what’s shorting out on the circuit. It's an external light but the breaker box is at home and runs out my front yard. It's on a timer. When that light clicks on, sometimes it flips that breaker. The electrician told my wife that he was going to get in touch with AHS and see exactly what could be done and then go from there. It’s not resolved yet. He cut the power to the outdoor lights that were tripping the breaker and it is not tripping now. So, it is something out there in the front yard. Everything's better than satisfactory with AHS. The requests are responded to very promptly, within a matter of minutes, if not hours. So, I'm very happy with the service.

The person that American Home Shield recommended postponed my appointment and I still don't have one. It's been three weeks now. I called back after the first time they canceled to see if I could get a new person assigned to the job and they said there wasn't anyone else available in the area. But it was great when AHS assigned Fifth Avenue Appliance to help with my freezer and my washing machine. My ice machine wasn't working properly. It kept making chunks instead. The tech said there was a leak and he would order a new part. And he did. He came in the next week and put in the new part and it's fine.

My washing machine also had an issue. It was leaking a little bit. So, I called AHS back and asked if I could have Fifth Avenue Appliance. And they said yes. So, the tech came. He was gonna change the washer but another part was rusted. So, he couldn't change the washer. The bracket that holds the washer also needed replacing. So, he went back and said he couldn’t do it and he needed another part. He went to get the other part and then a week later, he came back and fixed it. It was perfect.

I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield and paid the 100, and they scheduled the company. All Hours Emergency Plumber’s techs came out, pulled the water heater’s cover off, looked at it and said that they had to replace the entire thing. They put the cover back on and said they would be in touch. I did not appreciate that I have a warranty and I'm told I'm getting the system replaced with the same thing but I have to pay almost $800 in a labor charge for the repair guys to resize the pipe when it's the exact same size pipe. It is ridiculous. AHS was quick to respond but when I spoke to their customer service about the $799 charge, which happened to be the same price as a new water heater, they could not clarify. And the whole piping piece doesn't need to be resized because I had someone else come out and say that if it's the same thing, there's no resizing needed.

AHS needs to listen to the homeowner and not base it on one company. They're gonna charge 799 for the resizing and get a second opinion because that's ridiculous when I'm telling them it's literally an ignition switch. It's a $20 piece. My system works fine now. I replaced the ignition switch myself. Getting the claim done through the app, paying the fee and getting someone to come out has been fine. But once the person comes out and AHS not listening, and their customer service agents reading from a script and not listening to the client, that's where the downfall comes in. If people are gonna go with AHS, they can do their research on what AHS is going to charge them labor-wise, unless they wanna go for that top-tier plan, which includes everything.

He said, "Well, you'll have to replace the circuit breaker, and then I'll replace your pump." We're still in that process and I haven't been able to get anybody from American Home Shield to come up and say that I've replaced the circuit breaker and the pool pump will be replaced on their nickel. It was just the tech who said it and I'm not sure he's got the authority to do that. I'm still hoping this all turns out okay, but it's not been as smooth as I would have liked and it's been a little frustrating. It also didn't help that the first person I talked to had a strong accent and I don't hear well.

It's easy to submit claims, and American Home Shield usually responds soon. The contractors are generally quite good as well. I've had some problems with my air conditioning and those guys were good. Generally, the pool people are good too. It's just that, in this case, there was a hooker that I had to go through and I also had to change the circuit breaker and that's an expensive proposition. I also called the company that they sent out for the first time and that person didn't answer the phone. He said, "I'll call you right back," but he never did.

My dryer was not drying and some parts needed to be replaced. The contractor was excellent. But I was going to call back because there was a part that was left here, and I don't know if it's an old or a new part. The problem is my dryer doesn’t seem to be drying that well on the normal cycle. I wanted to give another shot at it and see how that worked before I call back. I also had an appointment for my refrigerator. The ice maker was not working and I realized that the freezer wasn't freezing properly. So, I put in my request to American Home Shield and someone from Sears came down. They looked at it and they said they didn't have the parts. It's the compressor so they had to place an order. They sent someone different to install it and it was done very quickly. The guy left. But I still did not have a freezer. I had to contact American Home Shield again and they told me to contact Sears.

I could not get in touch with Sears but when I finally did, they sent somebody else back. They checked out the compressor, made a couple of adjustments and replaced my ice maker. My freezer worked for a day and then, it went out again. And this went on. It was hit-and-miss for them to do the repairs, so I did not have a freezer for four months. It started in February and ended in June.

Sears is horrible to work with. They sent out multiple technicians. One of them said that the refrigerator probably should have been replaced but nobody wanted to make that call. I contacted American Home Shield numerous times and they said that because the call was out to Sears, they couldn't do anything for me. My freezer seems to be working now but it hums like crazy and it never did that before. When I called American Home Shield about that, they told me that's normal. The response was that the rep’s freezer does that and I said mine did not do that before.

When I bought the house, the coverage was active, so we just took it over. Since my husband and I moved from New York to Atlanta the first time we owned a house, as opposed to a co-op, and we're retired, it would be best to keep it. And we've had it for the five years that we've lived here. The company that came to do the repairs for my dryer was excellent. Sears, given the experience that I had, that it took four months, the amount of food that I had to throw out and the cost for that, and the lack of experience and professionalism was ridiculous.

The experience with American Home Shield was spotty. Their contract with Sears sucks. Sears covers quite a bit and AHS wanted to send Sears to repair my dryer and I refused. So it seems that AHS does most of its business with Sears. And I am considering, more than likely, I'm going to cancel my service with AHS. I'm waiting to see how my dryer works, and if I have to, call for AHS to come back and take a look at it again. I wrote a scathing letter to them in July about the poor service that I had. Someone finally called me in July. So they made a follow up but it took them a very long time to do so.

We had a water leak coming from behind the wall underneath the baseboard that saturated the carpet and the carpet pad. It was the condensation drain from the AC furnace unit in the attic and apparently, the drain pipe had disconnected. So, water was leaking down into the wall. All Tech, the contractor, didn't have to cut into the sheetrock or the drywall at all. We just had to pull a carpet and pad up. But they were able to replace the drain pipes and there's no more leak. But replacing my carpet is gonna be an out-of-pocket expense because that's not covered by American Home Shield, which sucks. I’ve been with them for 11 years, coming on 12 years in July. For the most part, the claims process is good. Sometimes it gets a little frustrating on things that I consider should be covered that aren't covered.

For instance, in the past, we've had frost-free pipes that have burst in the winter and AHS won't cover them. If it's a frost-free pipe, it shouldn't freeze so that should be covered, especially if we put the outside covers on those frost-free pipes. We've had that happen three times where they wouldn't cover the cost of the repair. But we've also had good success with AHS fixing things that need to be fixed, that are covered. So, my biggest frustration with them has been things that clearly were out of our control and should have been covered as well as secondary damage that, again, is out of my control and is because something failed in the house. It ends up being an out-of-pocket cost for me even though I'm paying a premium every month for the services.

So, the first one was perfect. I took it and a couple of days later, they changed it. They sent me another text for another appointment. So, I was a little confused and I called them. They said they sent me one that’s earlier and I said that was not convenient and the one I confirmed was great. The rep said they couldn’t do that anymore and I have to do the earlier one. So, I said okay and assumed it was because the company was in Orlando and they probably were not in my area. But they didn't give me a choice to change it after that and it was delayed. It was a little excessive. But that's not American Home Shield's problem.

When the contractor contacted me when I got the appointment, it was almost two weeks. But everything else was good. The guy that I dealt with was friendly though the contractor tried to upsell me on some equipment in the garage. I said no and the tech just fixed the detectors. They did a good job. I had a leak in one of my faucets and, ultimately, it was resolved, but there was a lot of difficulty on my end to get it done. The technicians were great. They did a really good job, but they were limited to the really strict rules that American Home Shield has. American Home Shield could do a lot of things better. They could cover above builder grade and provide replacements that are an equal value to what is broken. They could also lower the cost to have someone come and fix something in people's homes. Ultimately, I'm gonna cancel. I'm not happy with their service.

I never have an issue with American Home Shield as well, but they could adjust the cost to have a claim. It's $125 for everything.

American Home Shield has been great, and I've always had good experiences with their techs. Recently, a guy came in for my dryer and as soon as I told him what it was doing, he knew the issue right away. A part had gone out and he said, "Oh, it's probably the pulley." He guessed correctly. He took the dryer apart, fixed it, and put it back together in 15 minutes. It was very impressive, and it works great now.

The contractors are excellent. I've never had a problem with them, and everything has worked properly. My most recent claim experience was better than the last one, because usually, it takes so long to have a part approved and then get it and get the repair done. This time, they assessed what the technician turned in, and then they gave me an answer within at least a week, which is better. Usually, it takes longer than that. Plus, there was a holiday involved, so I won't count that.

American Home Shield offers good value for the money and I like having the extra peace of mind. Besides that, I would give them good reviews so far. I haven't had any issues with them. When my heat stopped working, I submitted a service request by phone and it was fine. Sometimes there was a language barrier because they're outsourced, but they submitted what I needed correctly. They had Xtreme Heating & Air come out and they fixed the issue immediately.

Robson Appliances was quick, and their technician was great. They came out as a second opinion because, supposedly, the first opinion on my washing machine said that the drum was dented, which it wasn't. It was a false claim. Robson came out and said, "No, the bearing's bad," and then they replaced it. They were great. Meanwhile, the technician from the other place, I wouldn't say they were bad, but I don't know if, in translation, something got messed up. When the technician came back out for something else, he said, "That's not what I said."

I've had American Home Shield a few months now and the claim process works, but I dislike the follow-up process. I don't believe I should be needing to follow up. They should call me. However, I have to constantly follow up and they have me reach out to the service company to find out where the report is when the report's already been sent in. American Home Shield said that, "Oh, we haven't gotten the report back from the service people." They call the service people and they say, "Oh, we sent that in last week." When I call back to ahs, they say, "Oh, here it is. We have it. We'll send a technician out," then, I have to follow up again. My unit got fixed, but it took a lot of work.

American Home Shield had a guy come out when my garage door intermittently would not open. He told them what the problem was and fixed it right then. He was great. However, American Home Shield has been terrible and I'm leaving them. Their customer service is horrible. My refrigerator broke in August and I called constantly. It was fixed this week, but no one should allow a consumer to have a broken refrigerator for over three months. I had no refrigerator at Thanksgiving.

American Home Shield's price also goes up every year, so I wasn't happy with that either. When people first use them, it's a good price. If they did a repair for someone and it didn't work for six months, they’d come back out without the person having to pay again. Now, it's one month. I'm up for renewal in January, and my understanding is my price is gonna go up again. I didn't ask how much because I don't care how much. I'm not gonna use them, and I'd tell people, "Don't use them."

So, they changed the thermostat on it. It's working. But the thermostat they put on is not like the thermostat we had. We had a thermostat that could be controlled from our iPhone and this is just a plain Jane $10 thermostat you get at Walmart. But the way American Home Shield handled our television was superb.

Our TV went out and they gave me options. I notified them back and said that the TVs that they offered only have side LEDs. The TV I had had full LEDs in the back. They looked up the model number and said, "You are correct. We can offer you the exact same TV that you had or we can offer you this." They replaced it with the exact TV that we had. I picked the TV out. They shipped it to the house, told me to throw the old TV out. It was seamless.

The techs were very nice and professional. They worked on the refrigerator and also changed the stovetop. The problem is that with the refrigerator, the same piece that they replaced got damaged. It would get stuck. It was the reason why I called it in. The refrigerator has two doors and the one that has the water outside has to be replaced and they were gonna order the complete door to replace the part that keeps breaking and come back today. I'm very happy with American Home Shield. My co-worker referred me to them and I referred them my friend.

I placed an order for a microwave because it had a light lit that said reset some kind of filter. I'm not very savvy electronically. So, I called it in and paid my 125. Then today, while I was waiting for them, I started to look at the microwave and I figured out that the filters were filthy. This is a rental property and the tenants never cleaned it. So, I removed the filters, cleaned it out and the light went away. So, I gotta call AHS now to tell them. I told the gentleman to please let them know that the call for the microwave was a mistake and I’m wondering if they're gonna refund me for not using it. I'll find out how that turns out. I hope it's successful as it's been until now. The customer service is very nice and professional. I have AHS in the tenant’s house as well as in my house. My house is double what I pay the tenant's property because it's a bigger house. It's alright. But I hope it doesn't go up because once you have a claim, they tend to increase it.

American Home Shield is worth having if you can afford it. But if you can't afford $75 a month and $100 every time, I wouldn't recommend it because you can finance all the things that you might need to replace in your house for a lot less than that. AHS is expensive for what I get. But they have sent techs out and repaired my air conditioner more than once, so it has been worth it. My dishwasher and dryer recently broke. AHS has that replacement if they couldn't fix it thing, but they could not replace my dryer. They only gave me half of what a new dryer costs, so I'm not thrilled about that. I assumed they would cover the entire cost of a dryer, but they gave me what mine would be worth, which is crazy because it's 10 years old. I had to spend about $500. The dishwasher part has been ordered and the guy should come back sometime this week.

Every time I called AHS back, they kept saying that they had to reach out to the contractor and they could not switch contractors. And even when they tried to reach out to the contractor, he was not responding to them. When I finally told American Home Shield I wanted to cancel my contract, they agreed to switch it to a different contractor. The techs from FTA Services were very prompt. As soon as AHS switched to them, they reached out to me, set up an appointment and came at the promised time. They did a good job in fixing it.

The experience with American Home Shield was extremely bad. People should choose a different company because their policy doesn't make any sense. They would rather make a customer wait with a faulty piece of equipment and keep repeating the same thing and they will not change it until you tell them that you’ve had enough of them and you’re gonna quit. We reached out to American Home Shield because my $4,500 Samsung refrigerator was making a little bit of sound from the ice maker. So, they allocated Express Appliance. When the guys came, they did a diagnosis and changed some parts. There was no problem with the refrigerator other than that little bit of knocking sound from the ice maker. After they replaced the parts, the whole refrigerator stopped working. So we called them again for a follow-up and they said the compressor was gone and they would have to order a new compressor. It was a relatively new refrigerator and the compressor could not have just gone wrong without someone doing something wrong with the refrigerator. They said the wait time was 16 weeks so I reached out to American Home Shield. I told them that we can't wait that long for the compressor.

First of all, the compressor should not have gone bad. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the fridge. The rep said that with Samsung refrigerators, when one thing is broken, as soon as you open them, everything starts to fall apart. But I don't buy that. The compressor has got nothing to do with the ice maker making a knocking sound.

AHS offered me a buyout. They said they would give me $590 if I didn't want to wait and just get a replacement fridge or get a repair done myself. $590 for a $4,000 fridge seems completely unreasonable and I asked them if they can send another vendor for another look. They said they can't do that. But I can get another opinion and if someone else says that what was done by Expert Appliance was wrong or the diagnostic is wrong, then they will send another vendor to verify what my technician is saying and then decide what action they wanna take. So, it's just beating around the bushes. They know that someone will not live without an appliance as critical as a refrigerator for 16 weeks. And it was kind of just succumbing to whatever they're offering.

AHS had allocated Express Appliance for the dryer too. It stopped every 10 minutes when it was programmed to dry. The diagnosis from Samsung was that there was something called a moisture sensor that might be faulty. Express Appliance’s tech did something on the dryer as well and now, the dryer is not working. So, two out of two appliances that they worked on were ruined. People should look for another provider that has better vendors in the network. I’ve been with American Home Shield for three months and they seem to go for vendors that are probably very cheap. Express Appliance has horrible reviews online. Even if you try to call their customer service, you can spend days and not be able to reach them. But the customer service agents with AHS are nice. The problem is that the company is run with a set of sketchy policies.

I am not thrilled with American Home Shield. It's not like they say it is on TV. They sent a repairman who was not able to fix the appliance, and they sent a plumber who wasn't able to fix it. Sears came out a total of four times. I originally reported the problem September 26th. It was repaired Monday of this week. From September to December, but it was the beginning of December. It was two months-plus. I am seriously considering going with someone else. When I looked online at these kinds of companies, AHS doesn't get the greatest reviews. My husband signed up with this many years ago. My husband passed away and I've been dealing with it since. So, I'm not aware of what his experiences were because he took care of things. Now that I have to do it, it has not been a pleasant experience. There was a lot of back and forth and bad information, and repairmen who didn't know what they were doing.

While I've been the one responsible for doing everything, AHS would make sure they collect their $89 a month. And when something goes wrong, they still want the $100 deductible. I'm not sure it's worth it. They would do everything humanly possible to fix an item before they would replace it. I would get emails trying to sell me additional services, like coming out and checking out my HVAC system but they wanna charge extra for that. It's not part of the service that they provide.

I had my furnace quit a week ago today. I called it in. I still have not got a service man out. I've had to call AHS. I logged every phone call. I couldn't understand the name of who I talk to. They're hard to understand. I've called them at least once a day. They kept saying that they would send someone and someone would be assigned by the end of the day. But I still don't have anybody.

I had a dryer break a few years ago and AHS couldn't get anybody out here. They gave me permission to get someone. I did. I paid them. AHS said they would reimburse me. I had to go to the Better Business Bureau to get them to reimburse me because they kept saying they didn't get it. I mailed it. I also sent it via email. I told them exactly how I sent it, where I sent it. It was all correct. They kept saying they didn't get it. So, Better Business Bureau contacted them. They finally paid me. They still said they never got it. I should cancel AHS. But how can I cancel it when I have a furnace on the fritz? And I need them to hold up their end of the deal. I am unsatisfied.

Every time you put the AC on the coldest temperature, it would start leaking inside the house. The repair guy from Rockstar Roofing explained what it was and told us not to put the AC too cold at night to avoid that situation. But I made another claim with American Home Shield and nobody came. It was the same company and they were supposed to come on that Wednesday too. I submitted the claim to the same lady that I did the first one. It was all on the same phone call.

I got the service with American Home Shield because I got a new house and the owner offered me the home warranty. AHS changed my food disposal and the only thing I did not like was that they put a huge one. The one that I had was small and the one that I have now looks like a cylinder. It works perfectly but it's consuming half of my space. So, that wasn't okay. But right now, I like AHS. I haven't had any other situation other than the one with Rockstar Roofing. The company could have tried to reach me with one phone call.

My heat pump is not working. I called American Home Shield to have a technician come out. They had a technician that came out on Monday that went by. He advised that he replaced something. He left shortly after. The heat pump stopped working again. On Monday I gave AHS a call to say it stopped working. Today is Friday and there has been no technician here. I called AHS. “What is happening? It's cold in my house. This is Maryland.” Every day AHS would say, “They should be reaching out.” No one has.

The technician said, “Your heat pump is okay. We just needed to replace something that was low." Not completely gone. Low. So, now that my heat is working off auxiliary heat, if something was wrong, this is on AHS because the tech advised me that nothing was significantly wrong with the heat pump. He needed to replace whatever he claimed he replaced but that didn't fix it. AHS sent the same technician out that didn't fix it in the first place. So, I have no confidence that this would work. AHS has not been of any help to me. I had to reach out to get the contractor to make an appointment to come out and look at it again.

Earlier this afternoon, I got the number for the company who AHS sent out. I gave them a call. I finally got someone to answer the phone. He said, “We're gonna call the technician. And we'll have someone come out tomorrow to look at the heat pump.” After this service, I may no longer be with AHS because that is horrible. I’m sitting in a cold house for something that they said they fixed.

I had a tenant move out and he said the garage door wasn't working. I couldn't get either of the two remotes to work. I called American Home Shield. For $125, they sent somebody out. The place is vacant. But I told them there's a painter inside the house. I said, "You have full access to the garage." I told them the garage number. They never even had to go into the house because the garage is separately detached. By the time they left, they had called and told me that they fixed it. But it was a fire safety hazard that it had been worked on previously. Somebody damaged the circuit board and there was a cover missing for something. I was not there so I didn't check if the remotes worked.

I called AHS back and told them what the contractor told me. They submitted to them the same thing, that what happened wasn't normal wear and tear. So, AHS didn't cover it. I bought a new opener part of the garage door. I had it installed by Home Depot. They would install it later this week. In the meantime, I went down there and tried the two remotes I had in the garage door. It doesn't make any sound on the motor so it's still not working. I paid $125 for nothing. I called AHS back and told them that they didn't fix it and, "You're not gonna buy me new ones, so I want the $125 back for what they did. Because they said it worked and it doesn't." They put me on hold, transferred me to somebody else, and the call got disconnected. I'm disappointed being hung up on or disconnected, and not getting a call back knowing who they were talking to. That was rude. I wasn't happy with the service. It could be hit or miss depending on who you talk to.

I don’t live full-time in the house and I went down and there was no heat. I called American Home Shield like I always do. I did it first thing on Monday morning and by lunchtime, Montgomery contacted me. I told the rep what my problem was and she said she had a technician just finishing up the road from me and would send him down. The tech was polite and knew what he was doing. He said the conductors outside and inside were both burned and he replaced them. And now the heat is running so I’m good. I would want 100% this service technician to come if I ever had another issue because he was a senior technician. He did his job and I couldn't ask for anything more. It was perfect.

I've had to have a couple of claims over all the years that I've had American Home Shield, and I've had it at both houses at one time. The plumbers that I had to use were nice. They were good but it took days and there were different issues. Sometimes that happens. But this service call was above and beyond. It was the least wait time and the most efficient work executed in the most professional manner of any service call I've ever had through a company through American Home Shield.

I was going to drop AHS last spring because the cost of everything is getting outrageous and I was having to cut down on different aspects. So this was one of the first that was gonna go, because it's a hit or miss, and I have to pay $150 on top of what I pay every month to get the service call out there. But the woman who contacted me when I was gonna drop it said she would give me three months and if I decide that I still don't want it, then I drop it.

If you got a brand new house, don't worry about it. But if you've got a home that is a little bit older, just like a car that's a little bit older, there’s some comfort there with AHS, knowing that you've got back up if something major were to go out. If the whole air conditioning or heating unit went out, that would be a big issue so that would justify paying every month and then paying for a service call. AHS had to replace a refrigerator before and that helped. That was a good thing although I had to wait for months and months. And it was not the easiest situation. It was kind of ridiculous but that's different, because there's always a circumstance, and that was during the pandemic.

American Home Shield would respond very quickly and efficiently as always. There isn't an online option for our heating unit. I just had to call it in instead of doing it online. I made the service request in a weekend evening. They got back within a reasonable amount of time. They identified the issue. They weren't able to fix the specific issue that day and were able to come back before Thanksgiving to fix the issue. Good experience there.

If you don't have a warranty, you need to get one, and you need to get with American Home Shield. I noticed that the furnace would stay on for a little while, but would go out. I waited a bit, thinking maybe I needed to reset the thermostat. I again tried to turn it on. Instead of having it on auto, I put heat on on and it lit. It was fine. But it turned off again. I went online and filled out the claim of what I needed. AHS called me back either the same day or the next day and had somebody at my house within that week to come out. It was very easy.

The contractor was very professional. They answered my questions. They always gave me a realistic expectation of how long it would take them to take care of the issue. They didn't tell me, “We can do it right now.” They gave me, “Based on the situation, it may take longer than what you may be expecting. Is that okay? Do you want me to come back?” They always informed me what they needed to do. The tech had to come back, he did, and it was fine. They called me before they came. Whatever they fixed works now.

American Home Shield is hit or miss. Either you hit it good like I did with the guy with the plumbing or you hit it bad with the people that are working on my furnace. We had a leaking pipe on a toilet. I received a notice from AHS that I submitted a claim. I also received an email or text that Tom Melton had been assigned to it, and they would call with an appointment. They did. The guy showed up. He was professional and knowledgeable. He put a new bolt on our water line that leaked and tightened that up and made sure that that was okay. He told me to take a picture of the spot on the ceiling and wait a month and compare the spot in a month. If it hasn't gotten bigger, we would know that was the problem. He looked at another thing on another toilet for us while he was here.

Getting ahold of AHS is not as easy as it seems. I would have to navigate through their phone thing to get to a person. It usually wants me to do it automated or online. I'm in the middle of another claim for my furnace and it has not been going well. It frustrates me. I like the service because AHS would fix things in our house that I would not have to pay a lot of money out of pocket for. However, they don't replace a lot of items. They continually fix the same problem. They don't remedy the situation. This is the third time our furnace had the same problem. Instead of replacing it, they just keep fixing it. Some of the companies they send are less than desirable. They sent a furnace team out who didn't have the parts to fix my furnace. So, they had to order them. Don't get AHS because you don't get to pick who you want to fix your house. It would be nice to have a say in who comes.

My most recent claim experience with AHS was okay. Submitting the claim was fairly easy. My furnace wasn't coming on. The tech who came out was great. He repaired it. AHS is okay. It just takes a long time for the contractor to get in touch with you. Or if your product breaks, it's hard to get it replaced. Because I've had them for so long, I've run into those problems. When my refrigerator went out, it took a long time. For my washer, if they couldn't repair it, it just takes forever to get them replaced. But other than that, I have no complaints. However, when I started, I was paying $50 a month. Now, I'm paying almost $100 a month. It went up drastically. Pretty expensive.

For my recent claim with AHS, the pressure release of the hot water heater valve was stuck open. It was faulty, and I was getting water leak out of the drain pipe. It was just constantly leaking. I submitted a claim through the website of AHS. Their website's great. Based on your plan and what you have covered, if you've got an issue within your coverage, it's a couple of quick clicks and they get you scheduled. It's very intuitive.

The techs who came out were very professional, quick with the repair and thorough. They took the time to explain exactly what the issue was and what they did to fix it. I had asked some other questions that they took the time to answer as well. They were clean. They came in and made sure that their feet were covered with their booties to not trap things through my my house and my carpet. I was very satisfied with them.

So far, AHS has been great to work with. I've had a couple of other issues that they resolved pretty promptly. I like the quickness of their response. Any time I've submitted any claim for anything that's done, I'm getting professionals to contact me within the 48 hours that they say. You're getting what you're paying for on the coverage.

My most recent claim with AHS was very smooth. The representative was very helpful. She went above and beyond. I had a toilet leak, which was a busted pipe as well. When I called American Shield, the rep took all the information down. She called the clients that they assigned us to and left a message. The clients called us back to schedule a time to come. The client called me back and said he could come right away. They came and fixed the problem. But American Home Shield did a wonderful job with just seeing it from start to finish as much as they could and getting me in contact with the people to do the service.

He had to leave to get a piece when he found out that it was a busted pipe. It took him an hour and a half to two hours. But a lot of it was him testing just to make sure nothing else was busted. He went above and beyond and did it in a timely manner and was very professional. He did a really good job. He was very thorough. He explained it to my husband, showed him what he was fixing. He was just really good and we haven't had any problems since.

We had a recent refrigerator repair. It was dead. The compressor was broken and the sealant system was leaking. We had the third service technician to come out to look at the problem. They sent the wrong person because American Home Shield didn't specify the closed sealing system was the issue, and that needed a specialist. American Home Shield neglected to indicate that on the referral they made to Bay Appliance. So Bay Appliance just sent a normal tech. He said, "The compressor is dead. But the sealant system needs our expert to look at it." That was all very frustrating.

That was the end of the rope and that was when I had requested to pay cash-in-lieu of repair payments. We finally got that. But the whole whole thing took two and a half to three weeks of us living without a refrigerator freezer and it was a holiday weekend. We just went out and bought a new refrigerator on our own. And they've approved a payment last Wednesday. They said it should be available in three business days. Today is day number three business day but we still haven't gotten the payment yet. This is ny second year with AHS. Generally, the techs of AHS have been good. But it's a slow process to get one out. Once they assign, they have to set up an appointment and that usually takes several days.
