When I submitted a claim for plumbing issues, I did it online, and found the process quite easy to navigate. Initially, I had a problem with the first technician who never showed up for the appointment. However, the second technician was great and resolved the issue. Overall, it took about three weeks from the time I submitted the claim until the plumbing was finally fixed. Despite the initial hiccup with scheduling, once everything was aligned, the service improved significantly. I'd rate my experience with AHS a 4 out of 5.
Sincerely,
Mariah

My unit my unit wasn't cooling properly and was leaking. I requested service from Austin Heating and Air through American Home Shield and the technician quickly diagnosed and fixed the issue. Since the repair, everything has been working perfectly and there's been no further trouble with it. We've been with American Home Shield for quite some time, and my initial concern was the cost, as it seemed high given that I'm not on a fixed income. However, the service tends to justify the investment. If a friend or family member asked for my advice regarding American Home Shield, I would definitely recommend signing up, just like my daughter did for me. The customer service has been impeccable and their online service portal is quite user-friendly, deserving of high marks for ease and navigation.

When my air conditioner decided to give out, I contacted American Home Shield over the phone to submit a claim and they promptly called me back. They followed up with an email, keeping me informed throughout the process, which was helpful. When the contractor, Kenneth Bugay Mechanical, was dispatched, they examined both my attic unit and the outdoor unit. They identified the issue as a switch in the outdoor unit and quickly informed me that parts were being ordered. The total process, from identifying the issue to fixing it, took about a week, mostly due to the time needed for the parts to arrive.
My sister stepped in to assist while I was out of town and the transition back was seamless as everything was perfectly functional on my return. Now, my air conditioner is working flawlessly and I'm extremely satisfied with the service. I've been with American Home Shield for many years and I like that they respond when I need them to. It's worth having the program. The service is great and the coverage is good.

A switch in my dryer that wouldn’t stop spinning and wasn’t receiving power. American Home Shield collaborated with DeWitt's Appliance Repair to address the problem and DeWitt's Appliance Repair resolved the issue swiftly, impressing me with their proficiency. If needed, I would request DeWitt's again and I would ask for that specific person that came out. Aside from that, whenever I contact American Home Shield, I do so by phone and my experience with their customer service is always excellent. I've never encountered any problems in my interactions with them. However, considering the price I pay for American Home Shield’s services, I wish it could be a bit more affordable, especially since I’m on a fixed income.
Hello Williemae, we are pleased to hear you are pleased with your service. Glad to hear our technicians met your expectations as well. Thank you for being a valued customer. If you may ever need our assistance again, please feel free to reach out to us. Thanks

I filed a claim for my freezer and ice maker, anticipating the usual hurdles that come with warranty claims. To my surprise, the process was smooth, and submitting the claim was straightforward and well-handled. Since the repair, everything has been working perfectly without any issues. Overall, I'm very satisfied with AHS.
Hello Robin, we are pleased to hear you are happy with our company. Glad to hear we were able to resolve the issue with your freezer and Ice maker. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Have a great day!

I had a refrigerator repair. I had to wait two weeks initially, only to have the appointment canceled and rescheduled even further out. When the technician from Sears finally arrived, I found myself frustrated as he was not prepared with the necessary parts as promised in their text communication. The repair, which only required a fan replacement, dragged out into a lengthy seven-week ordeal.
The process of dealing with American Home Shield for contractors and getting repairs done has been frustratingly slow. It feels like pulling teeth to even get their contractors to show up, especially in my more rural area. Oftentimes, I am left to ring up their suggested contractors, who outright refuse to work with AHS, adding insult to injury. Their handling of my service requests has left a lot to be desired. After four years with them, I'm looking into other home insurance options.
We appreciate your feedback about American Home Shield and your recent service experience to have the repairs completed! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

I upgraded to American Home Shield’s highest plan, paying around $150 a month, expecting certain guarantees. To my disappointment, when my LG appliance needed a replacement, I was told it would be substituted with a GE product instead. This wasn’t aligned with what my contract had promised, which was to replace with the same brand if a fix wasn’t possible.
I expressed my concerns to their representative, but it seemed they weren’t too bothered. This situation makes me reconsider my options, and I’m now exploring other service providers. The switch from LG to GE affected my experience, as the GE appliance lacked a specific feature that I regularly used and needed. The option to take the monetary compensation and shop myself was there, but it was inconvenient given the additional installation costs and disposal concern for the old washer.
For context, I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 15-20 years without too many issues before now. As a realtor, I typically recommend warranty companies to my clients, but this incident left me dissatisfied. While I wouldn’t label American Home Shield as the worst, this situation made me rate them lower than I might have otherwise.
Thank you for sharing your most recent AHS experience. We hope you continue to enjoy the customer service to ease your home repairs.
Kind Regards,
Mariah

I've been with American Home Shield for at least four years, and while the warranty itself is decent and filing claims is fairly straightforward, I've encountered significant challenges with their service delivery. It often takes a considerable amount of time to get a technician out to address a claim. In many instances, up to two weeks might pass without any action taken on a filed claim, as they tend to switch contractors frequently.
For one particular claim with Budget AC, it took about two weeks overall from filing the claim to having someone actually come out. Initially, the claim passed through three different contractors before reaching Budget AC. Once Budget AC got involved, they scheduled a visit within two to three days, which was more efficient than the prior experiences.
While their warranty might be okay, the prolonged wait times and contractor changes have been quite frustrating, prompting a less than satisfactory experience overall.
Hello John. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and provide feedback on the service that you have received. We apologize for any delays associated with the work order for your air conditioning system. We understand the importance of scheduling and resolving repair issues promptly. I would be happy to follow up with you to discuss your concerns further and offer any assistance that may be necessary.

When I contacted AHS regarding a plumbing issue, the technician arrived but didn't resolve my problem. Instead, they simply quoted me a $500 fee and left without making any repairs. I ended up needing to call American Home Shield to discuss the situation further, hoping to have my deductible reimbursed due to the lack of service received.
Hello Ujwal, we are sorry to hear you are not pleased with your plumbing request. Due to the request being a valid request, we apologize that the service fee is due. If you may have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. Thanks

It's been at least 7 years since I've relied on American Home Shield for coverage. The reason I initially opted for them was the ease they bring in handling repairs. They get in touch with contractors directly, which was a hassle for me when I had to contact repair companies myself. The service simplifies everything, from the moment I submitted a claim via computer to the pleasant interactions I've had with contractors when they came to fix issues like our dishwasher, which was leaking previously.
When the contracting company Crossroads Supply addressed the issues initially related to our washing machine, they were professional and efficient. It’s satisfying that everything is functioning smoothly now after their visits.
Having AHS has been valuable. It's like having a reliable insurance policy ensuring someone comes out to address my home problems promptly.
Pricewise, it might seem a bit on the expensive side, but it's probably because service prices generally increase. Nonetheless, my overall experience with them has been excellent.

I've been in touch with American Home Shield a few times for issues around my home, and my experience has been fairly positive. Our air conditioning stopped working and contractors from KJ Heating and Air come out. They managed to fix the issue, but unfortunately, it only lasted for a few days before failing again. Impressively, they responded promptly and got it working again.
I typically request my wife to handle the submission of claims as she's more accustomed to dealing with them directly. In terms of the quality of the contractors, they've been quite good based on my experience.
I'd rate my experience with American Home Shield a 4 out of 5. While the contractors were effective, my largest concern was dealing with two very hot weekends, including one on the 4th of July, without any repair services available during that time. This was particularly challenging as I have chronic breathing issues, and my wife had just had surgery.
However, I appreciate having the safety net that American Home Shield provides. We've encountered problems, but knowing there's a backup is reassuring. When it comes to customer service and coverage, I'd give them a solid 4 out of 5. Though I'm unsure of our financial arrangements since my wife handles our bills, I can say that the $100 co-pay we had to make was reasonable. Despite this, my experience has reinforced the peace of mind that comes with having American Home Shield as a safety net.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide!
Thank you,

My dad used to have American Home Shield and I decided to give it a try. I've been with them for around 8 to 10 years. I'm a fan of paying for a little bit of insurance so you don't have to worry about any issues. My most recent experience involved an issue with my air conditioning unit. There was a pool of water near my basement air conditioner, which turned out to be due to a clogged drainpipe. The technicians from Maselli Contracting came out and fixed the problem by blowing it out and cleaning it, which solved the issue effectively. I very much like Maselli. They're an honest and good company.
I've had other experiences with American Home Shield in the past, such as a washing machine and dryer issue, and a faulty water heater. When my hot water heater failed, I chose to take a payout and handled the replacement myself since the repair timeline was too long for me to wait. I've also had a couple of instances where the dishwasher was unfixable, and they offered money to replace it. I like the flexibility of taking the payout to expedite the process rather than waiting for their contractor—this has been great.
I'd rate AHS' customer service a 5 as they are generally responsive and ultimately make sure a contractor is dispatched. However, they're not really an option for emergencies because the dispatch system might delay a resolution. For emergencies, I prefer to handle them directly with the contractors I trust. With Maselli particularly, because I have a relationship with them, I call them and they do their best to get here as soon as possible because we’re their customer as well as their Home Shield customer.
The coverage is pretty comprehensive, covering a broad range of issues in my home and when it comes to pricing, it provides peace of mind most times. Regarding their online tools, I rated them lower because I prefer speaking with representatives. One downside is not being able to choose a specific contractor using the online tools without making a call. Despite this minor inconvenience, I've been happy with AHS’ service overall and would continue recommending it.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide!
Thank you,
Mariah

Since posting my review and getting the BBB the contractor finally came out and installed my new HVAC unit. However I was still charged $500 out of pocket for non covered costs. I feel like I should be reimbursed for these costs because I had to wait almost two months to have my AC replaced. Two months without any communication from the contractor, two months of nothing but the runaround from AHS (I have all my chat transcripts saved that I sent to the BBB). Yes I am thankful that my AC has been replaced, but I’m still upset about how I was treated throughout this whole process.
Original Review: July 26, 2025
On June 12, 2025, I sent in a service request to have my HVAC unit looked at because it was not functioning properly. The contractor came out in June 16th and said the condenser and evaporator coils both needed replaced. They sent the quote over to AHS and it was approved but I was supposed to pay $ 500 out of pocket for non-covered costs. I got a hold of AHS via chat to have someone explain what wasn’t covered. I was told my unit was being “modified”. I still don’t understand how replacing broken parts with new parts is modifying? But whatever. The technician ordered the parts. On June 23rd, I noticed on my AHS app it said service complete and another claim was canceled. So I contacted AHS via chat again and the agent said, "Don’t worry, the contractor has ordered the parts, they will arrive on June 27 and then they will reach out to set up the repair date."
The 27th comes and passes, I hear nothing. I wait a few days, and contract AHS via chat again on July 5th and was told by the chat they will email the contractor and wait for them to respond. Nothing. I contact AHS via chat again July 8th, was told the same thing. Finally, on July 10, I get a voicemail from the contractor stating they will be out to fix my HVAC unit on July 17th. That day comes and goes, they never show. I contacted AHS yet again via chat on July 21st, they emailed and call the contractor and get no response. I contact AHS again on the 22, 23, and 24, same thing they emailed and called the contractor, no response. I contact AHS today, July 25th and I’m told my service request was closed and there is nothing that can be done unless I pay another service fee. Even though the original issue was never resolved.
Then I get an email from the media department stating the contractor we be out at my house on July 29th, but they still expect the $500. Even though there has been nothing but no communication and nothing but being swept under the rug by both the them and AHS. All of this during an extreme heat wave with temperatures above 100 degrees every day. I had to take money I didn’t have and buy a window unit so me and my family wouldn’t suffer. Even then, it is still 85 degrees in my house. I’ve been a loyal customer and this is how they treat me when I finally ask for the service that I pay monthly for. They are a deceitful company.
Thank you, Christy, for taking the time to share your recent service experience with us regarding your air conditioning service. We hate to hear that this matter has not been resolved to your satisfaction. Our goal is to address your concerns and work with you to reach a resolution as quickly as possible. I reached out to American Home Shield (AHS) because I was having issues with my AC during the heat of summer. Initially, they contracted a technician who diagnosed the problem as a faulty ECM motor. Strangely, AHS canceled that request and instead claimed the issue was with the gas furnace and said it needed to be replaced.
The first company they sent also wanted to do a ductwork reconfiguration, which would cost me an additional $1,600—completely out of pocket. I questioned this and was told I had the option to get a second opinion. I did exactly that, and the second company confirmed that the ductwork was fine and that the reconfiguration was unnecessary.
When I reported this to AHS, they offered me a cash-in-lieu payout, which took five days to process—only to come back with a lowball offer of $950. When I called to express my concern, I was met with rude and dismissive customer service reps who told me, "Take it or leave it. We’ve made our decision." Absolutely no empathy, urgency, or willingness to help someone suffering through summer heat without air conditioning. This experience has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. AHS seems more interested in minimizing their costs than honoring their service contracts or taking care of their customers. I feel completely let down and would not recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable and respectful service. Buyer beware!
Thank you for sharing your concerns with us regarding your AC. I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. AHS understands the importance of having AC repair completed in a timely manner. I apologize that you do not agree with the cash in lieu offer and I am more than happy to reach out to you to discuss the matter further. Best Regards, American Home Shield

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about five years. Whenever I run into issues, I usually reach out to them online. Their response time is impressive—very quick, actually. Recently, I had an issue with my Samsung refrigerator, which was forming ice balls on the interior back wall. Initially, the technician couldn't fix it during the first visit and had to order parts. They’ve been out about three times, and now Sears Appliance is supposed to take over. Despite some hiccups with the repair process, I still find their service dependable. I would rate my overall experience with American Home Shield at four stars.
Although I haven’t had a lot of direct contact with their customer service, the online interactions have been smooth, so I suppose I'd give them a solid rating. However, I'm a bit concerned about the pricing, which I'd rate around two or three stars, as I’ve noticed the prices have been going up.
Thank you for sharing your experience with AHS and the ease of coverage that we provide!

Sadly, I've been faithfully paying for AHS for the better parts of two decades. Sadly, they ARE NOT what THEY USED TO BE! There was a time when, if you had an issue, it was resolved promptly and professionally. SADLY, THIS IS NOT THE CASE ANYMORE! Be prepared to wait weeks—or even months—to get your item repaired. And God forbid it needs to be replaced.
We filed a claim for our refrigerator on December 26, 2024. After entertaining four different repairmen over the course of five months, it wasn’t until the fifth technician finally declared the refrigerator unrepairable. Oh, by the way, PLEASE BE ADVISED... AHS deducted the cost of all five trips from my "settlement," totaling over $1,200. That left me with a measly $800 to replace a $3,500 Samsung Quad Door refrigerator.
Oh wait, why not take the buyout? SIMPLY PUT, IT WAS WORSE. They offered me $457.00 for the buyout. YES, it took six months to receive a virtual card worth $800 to use at Lowe’s for the replacement. Fast forward to July 8, 2025. We filed a claim for our AC unit. The technician came out, was very professional, and in my opinion provided an accurate diagnosis. After submitting the paperwork, I received an email from AHS stating: "Action Required."
I logged into my dashboard and saw a message saying I needed to pay $891 out of pocket to proceed. Naturally, I asked why. I was told that AHS only covers $10 per pound for Freon, when the going rate is closer to $90 per pound. A standard AC unit requires about 12 pounds—do the math. Now, that story alone is bad enough. However, it becomes more TERRIFYING! As of today, my family and I are still without a functioning central air system.
Thank God we were able to purchase a few freestanding units to keep parts of the house cool, but I digress. I messaged the technician to ask when they expected to return, since I had already approved the out-of-pocket cost and confirmed it with AHS. BY THE WAY, this approval is required before AHS will even order the parts needed to repair your system. The technician then told me that AHS had ordered the wrong coil for my AC unit. He tried contacting them for clarification but couldn’t reach anyone. He asked me to try. Of course, you all know how that went... NOT WELL!
The customer service rep could only tell me that they had “noted” my account for expediting. The soonest the part might be picked up by the technician?July 25, 2025 — a Friday. Assuming that happens, it’ll likely be another few days before I’m even scheduled. Best case scenario: I’ll have a working AC by August 1, 2025. Keep in mind—I filed this claim on July 8, 2025.
So yes, I know this was a lot—but do yourselves a favor and LEARN FROM THE MISTAKES OF PEOPLE LIKE ME. AHS IS BEYOND HORRIBLE, THEY ARE TERRIFYING! Please stay away—not just from them, but from all warranty companies. I refuse to even calculate how much money I’ve flushed down the toilet with this company over the years. However, July 29, 2025 will be my release date. I’m ending this EXTREMELY TOXIC RELATIONSHIP WITH AHS. I’ll be better served by putting my $65 per month into a maintenance savings account and handling repairs myself. PARTING SHOTS... AHS YOU ARE BAD ON SOOOO MANY LEVELS!
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

Extremely disappointed with American Home Shield. I filed a service request claim after my wall heater stopped working unexpectedly, only to have it denied on the grounds of a "manufacturing defect"—something completely out of my control. I pay premiums expecting protection from sudden failures in my home, but instead, the company dodged responsibility by labeling the issue as a defect. If the failure had caused a fire or worse, I wonder if they would’ve found another excuse not to pay.
This experience has completely eroded my trust in AHS. If your home appliances fail due to no fault of your own, don’t expect much support. I’ll be switching providers and warning others to read every exclusion closely—because they’ll use any reason they can to deny coverage. Look elsewhere if you want real peace of mind.
Thank you for sharing your concerns, Nitesh. We understand that it can be upsetting when being informed that a repair issue is not covered by your home warranty, and we apologize for any inconvenience and frustration that you have experienced. I would be happy to contact you to discuss the matter further. Thank you for your patience.

American Home Shield (AHS) for has failed to honor the terms of my home warranty contract, deceptive business practices, and improper charges related to my HVAC system service. Under my ShieldPlatinum Plan, AHS clearly states coverage up to $5,000 for the repair or replacement of my HVAC system, including any costs necessary to ensure compatibility with the existing system. My air conditioning unit requires a new compressor and has leaking coils. The technician assigned by AHS confirmed that the compressor is obsolete due to the age of the unit and recommended full unit replacement.
I received a replacement quote of $3,171.19, well within the $5,000 coverage limit. However, I was later informed by AHS that my out-of-pocket costs would be $5,230.00—exceeding both the actual cost of the unit and the warranty coverage limit. When I contacted AHS for clarification, I was told they would only cover the coils and compressor (even though the compressor is no longer available) and would not cover any “modifications” associated with installing the new unit.
This is inconsistent with the contract terms. The plan does not exclude such modifications—in fact, it specifically states coverage for all associated costs to ensure compatibility. There are no known code violations at my property, yet AHS refuses to provide a clear explanation for their denial. I had to repeatedly request an itemized breakdown, which should have been provided upfront. To date, I have still not received a transparent explanation of their calculations or denials.
After conducting research, I discovered numerous complaints describing a pattern of similar denials. AHS and its contracted technicians frequently use the term “modifications” in service reports—language that conveniently allows AHS to deny claims while appearing compliant with their policy. This practice appears deceptive and deliberately misleading, potentially to reduce claim payouts.
Additionally, I was charged a $125 service fee despite originally scheduling the appointment under a promotional offer for free HVAC maintenance. When I called for a follow-up—because the technician could not complete service during the initial visit—I was told I would have to pay the fee. This is misleading and, in my view, constitutes improper billing.
In summary, I believe AHS is:
Failing to honor the terms of a valid service contract.Engaging in deceptive practices by manipulating language in service reports.
Improperly charging consumers for promotional service calls.
Deliberately withholding cost breakdowns to avoid accountability.
I am seeking reimbursement for any unauthorized charges and a reimbursement of my renewal fee, which starts August 1st or a resolution in line with my warranty’s stated coverage.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

We have used AHS to cover a few homes over the years, and they weren't always that bad. When you get a warranty, you have to understand that the providers these warranty companies normally can't get business otherwise. In most cases, it is a waiting and escalation game to get anything done. Our AC unit started having issues in April 2025, and a claim was started. Provider came out, diagnosed, and filled with Freon. In May, we called them out for the same thing, and the provider ordered a replacement of the system. Fast forward 3 months to almost August, and the system has still not been replaced. There have been failures in ordering pasts, holding providers accountable, etc.
Even with multiple escalations a week, we find ourselves with rude escalation supervisors who can only "provide a status update" that they will provide a status update the next day. If I was the leadership of this company, I would be embarrassed. We came in with pretty low expectations, but 3 months is excessive. We have filed a complaint with BBB, and we have escalated within AHS numerous times, but cannot seem to find anyone with accountability and authority to resolve this matter within AHS.
Hello James and Aron,

My refrigerator stopped working. It took days to get a technician here and he announced he doesn’t work on closed systems. Several more days and a second gentleman came to tell me he isn’t certified yet and wouldn’t be certified to work on the refrigerator for another 30 days. By then I had no refrigerator for 9 days; had spent over $200 on ice and dry ice to keep from losing all our food and then I heard nothing more from AHS. I tried to quit the company but there is no way to call them save through a call center in the Philippines! They cannot cancel my contract and the minimum wait on hold was Z1 1/2 hrs. I spent 3 hrs one day trying to talk to someone about my problem. The Philippines can’t cancel and they didn’t have a phone number I could call.
From 7/3/25 until today, 7/21/25 I could not cancel. They kept my $125 service call fee and took another monthly payment from my bank of $59.58. They won’t refund the service charge and when I asked them to refund the monthly payment since I heard nothing from the company since 7/3 he instead told me he would waive the $50 cancellation fee!!! Are you kidding me?! I had AHS with a proper home that burned down in the “camp” fire in 2018 and they were great but now they are the worst company without any customer service I have ever had dealings with. There is no phone number to talk to the company except to sign up. After that it’s routed to the Philippines where they message the company of your needs and apparently even those get ignored!
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

Unfortunately, I'm a current American Home Shield customer and extremely disappointed with this company. As a customer, you pay an annual fee, then a $100 fee for a technician to come and repair a defective item. So far, everything has gone as agreed, but the shock is when you think they're going to proceed with the repair, they come up with countless excuses to avoid taking responsibility for what was established in the previous contract. Without further ado, I do not recommend this company; it's a scam.
Michel, we’re very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. Thank you for your feedback—it helps us improve. If you’d like to discuss this further, please reach out to us directly at socialmedia@ahs.com with your contract information and a copy of your review. The door of our dishwasher was rusting and it was leaking. The timer parts needed to be replaced too. American Home Shield had Express Appliance come out for the service, but the dishwasher is so old that they couldn't find a part. In the end, they replaced the entire unit for us.
We've run the new dishwasher a few times, and it’s working well so far. I wasn’t present during the service calls, but from what my wife reported, the technicians were professional and got the job done effectively.
In terms of dealing with American Home Shield, the process was smooth, but the timeline was a bit longer than preferred. It took about a month from filing the claim at the start of June until the new dishwasher was installed. During that time, I had to follow up myself, as there was a lack of proactive communication from both the home warranty company and the technicians.
Overall, the service was satisfactory. Despite the wait, everything turned out fine in the end. However, better communication throughout the process would significantly improve the experience from good to excellent.

When my microwave was not working, navigating the claims process online was straightforward thanks to American Home Shield's user-friendly website, but the service I received from Sears, their contracted service provider, was lacking.
Although the technician seemed knowledgeable and friendly, actual repairs fell short. They either did not complete the work or didn't show up as scheduled, resulting in a frustrating situation that spanned over a year with scheduled visits about six times. They came at least twice. Ultimately, American Home Shield replaced the microwave. It took about four months though.
As for American Home Shield's customer service, breaking through to someone who could genuinely assist was often difficult. It seems their customer service has been outsourced, which results in a lack of effective support and escalation options. I appreciate the quick responses in most cases, but when real problems arise, their so-called escalation department feels ineffective.
While I did find some value, such as relatively comprehensive coverage and an easy-to-use online tool, American Home Shield's customer support and service delivery need substantial improvement. I'd rate them a cautious 3.5 out of 5, although customer service in isolation would earn a mere 1. If you’re considering their services, proceed carefully and consider these aspects.
Charlene, thank you for your feedback. We're glad our online claims process worked well for you, but we're sorry for the delays and service issues you experienced with Sears and our customer support. We understand how frustrating that must have been and appreciate your patience. Your insights help us improve, and we’re working to strengthen both our contractor network and support services. Thank you for being a valued member.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for a few years now and we've had some issues with them here and there. When they switched to a new system about three years ago, we had some problems with them as well.
We recently had an experience with Fast Response Heating and Cooling. We had an issue with our motor and they came out quickly, but the situation didn’t go as smoothly as hoped. They took our motor with them and promised to get back to us, but a week or two passed with no updates. It was frustrating because we couldn’t call another company due to them having the motor. Whenever we called, they claimed to put us on the schedule, but this never materialized, and we were persistently left without a resolution. They also said they'll have somebody call back, but nobody ever called back. It was rough. American Home Shield tried to reach out to Fast Response Heating and Cooling and they just got a voicemail box that was full. They were gonna send out an urgent email to the service company, but then they got back with us the next day, and it was resolved after that a couple of days later.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Ashley. We truly appreciate your continued trust in American Home Shield over the years, and we’re sorry to hear about the challenges you faced during your recent service request.
We understand how frustrating it must have been to deal with delays and lack of communication, especially when your comfort was impacted. We're glad to hear that the issue was ultimately resolved, but we recognize that the process should have been smoother and more transparent from the start.
Please know that we’re committed to improving our service and ensuring that our contractors meet the standards our members deserve. If you ever encounter similar issues again, don’t hesitate to reach out, we’re here to help.

I had an issue with my air conditioner American Home Shield dispatched AC Wizards to address it. While they promptly fixed the issue by replacing the coil, there was an unfortunate incident where a small herb grinder went missing from my garage after the workers were there. When I mentioned the loss, American Home Shield suggested that perhaps I had misplaced it. Although the item wasn’t particularly expensive, it's the principle that mattered—I'm certain it was taken during the service visit. Despite this, the representative who helped me initially was polite and listened to my concerns.
In terms of service coordination, the technician seemed professional. I even tried to make their work environment more comfortable, offering water and snacks as they worked in the attic during warm conditions. In general, the subcontractor’s approach started well but left me with trust issues following the incident. I've been with American Home Shield for some time now and I like the service. The warranty is good to have, but the experience depends on the workers that come out. You just have to be careful, put things away, and watch them.
Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope you continue to enjoy AHS.

When I first bought my house 18 years ago, it was new and it had a one-year warranty with American Home Shield. I stayed with them and have had numerous experiences with their service. I had an issue that involved a broken toilet, for which I submitted a claim over the phone, speaking with a live representative for assistance. Other than being informed I would get a follow-up email from the contractors, I wasn't given much information upfront, but Triple Plumbing Inc. eventually came out and provided great service by installing new parts in the back of the toilet. It’s noteworthy that everything has been functioning well since their visit.
I have family that already has American Home Shield and I appreciate that the home warranty company sends reliable service people who follow through with their promises. However, a major point of contention is their tendency to raise prices without prior notification. I didn't see it until my credit card bill came. They've increased both the monthly fees (twice) and the service call fees, all without any notice or written consent.
I generally have no complaints about the quality of the service providers. I like them. American Home Shield's customer service is commendable, although there's room for improvement in how they communicate pricing changes. Still, my overall experience remains largely positive.

Their communication and interaction were commendable, and they proceeded to clean the water heater to resolve the issue. Now, everything is functioning just fine, which I’m pleased about.
What I appreciate most about American Home Shield is the ease of calling them to have things fixed promptly. However, one area I believe could improve is transparency in coverage details—knowing what’s covered before any payment is made would be beneficial.

I thought that AHS would be one of the elite ones because of the promotion, and so far, they've been very good. But they should screen their technicians better. Some of them were horrible, while others were really good. I had several technicians who said something was wrong that wasn't actually wrong trying to get me to purchase or to pay for an uncovered type of service. And when there are complaints about them, AHS should get rid of them. I made a complaint about one of the service technicians that lied about their service, and the next time I needed that same type of service, AHS referred the exact same company. Right now, I'm dealing with one of their contractors. They gave me an estimate for uncovered service, and I'm about to find out if they lied about it. If that's the case, then after that, I'll be filing a formal complaint again.

American Home Shield's customer service was satisfactory and the technicians who visited were decent. However, things took a turn when my air conditioner broke down. It seemed like they wanted to keep fixing it rather than replacing it, which I found quite frustrating. I felt unsatisfied, especially since my previous warranty with another company had covered a similar issue more thoroughly, allowing for upgrades as needed.
I also had a technician tell me I needed an entirely new HVAC system, but then relay to American Home Shield that only a part was needed. It felt like they were trying to sell me their services instead of genuinely solving the issue. Because of this, I ultimately had to finance the new system out of pocket, which was something I hoped to avoid by having a warranty plan in the first place.

My first year with American Home Shield was bundled in with my closing costs on my new home and since I had a great first-year experience, I decided to renew for another year. Recently, my upstairs AC unit stopped producing cold air. I tried to submit a claim through their website, which is generally user-friendly, but I encountered an issue as there was no option to select service for my AC unit. I had to reach out via support chat to get the claim through. When Myers Comfort Specialist of Birmingham came to fix the issue, they were efficient and thorough. They inspected the outdoor AC unit and later found a leak in the Freon in the attic. After patching the leak and refilling the Freon, my unit has been running perfectly. I had a fantastic interaction with the contractors; both were knowledgeable and friendly.
The ease of submitting claims online, the flat rate regardless of the issue, and the quality contractors provided have all contributed to my favorable view of American Home Shield. If I were to improve anything, it would be to have clearer website options for service selections, but otherwise, my experience has been great.

When I had an issue with my heating and cooling system, it was disappointing to find out it wasn't covered by American Home Shield, and I ended up spending $8,000 on a new system. I attempted to communicate with American Home Shield to see if they could send someone for a second opinion, but it seemed like their process was heavily automated. The communication wasn't straightforward, and even when talking to someone, they were mostly there to input information without providing real answers.
Having spent around $600 to $700 annually, plus additional service fees, it was frustrating when a significant repair wasn't covered. Hello Thomas, I thank you for your being a valued customer. My refrigerator stopped being cold and wasn't working at all. Unfortunately, it wasn't repairable, so I needed to get a new one. Given that my refrigerator was older, I was unable to find an identical replacement with similar features. However, as a senior citizen, I valued their guidance. They offered me a limit for a new purchase and I managed to pick a model that's within this budget limit, which at least ensured it worked, even if it lacked my previous refrigerator's features.
Throughout this challenging experience, I am grateful that American Home Shield supported me. Their representatives were accessible, and I could always speak directly to a person without hassle. They were prompt in setting up claims, providing reference numbers, and ensuring follow-through all the way till my issue was resolved. While I hoped the deductible could be lower, especially since I'm on a fixed income, the assurance they provide is crucial. Being in a warm home when the refrigerator was down could've been much worse without their timely help. Honestly, if it weren't for the warranty, the cost of replacing a refrigerator would have been daunting.
In essence, although the newer appliance didn't match my previous one's luxe features, the peace of mind provided by American Home Shield support was invaluable. I would give them a strong positive rating, based on my encounter, both for customer service and quality of service.

When American Home Shield sent a contractor to investigate, they didn't immediately detect the problem because the flooding had already stopped—from the toilets to the shower—everything seemed to be functioning normally again. However, the reality was that the severe flooding had already occurred.
On our insistence, they arranged for a second evaluation. The first visit was prompt, happening the next day, while the second took place two days after our request, which we made on a Friday. This inconsistency in addressing the root issue was frustrating, especially considering our reliance on them for resolution.
Reflecting on my experience with American Home Shield, I'd rate them a 3 out of 5. While their response time was decent, the initial oversight with the inspection left me less than satisfied. I was introduced to American Home Shield through a friend's recommendation but found nothing specifically memorable or standout about the service. Our realtor cousin who sold us a home provided us with a year of American Home Shield coverage as a gift. I'm quite satisfied with the service; the whole process of submitting a claim was simple and intuitive. We recently had to deal with our air conditioning not cooling, and I found the online claim process straightforward. The website clearly guides you, though I did have to spend a moment deciphering some technical terms like HVAC-related items for accurate reporting.

The dryer simply wasn't powering on, which was frustrating considering it was only about three and a half years old. I was surprised to find that appliances nowadays tend to have a relatively short lifespan, often around five years, according to the technicians I spoke with.
The technician from ATY Services who came for the repair was excellent, even replacing the motherboard and the dryer board, essentially overhauling the appliance's internals. Despite these efforts, the dryer remained non-functional. After multiple visits, it was decided that a replacement was the best solution, and American Home Shield stepped in to provide a new unit.
The new washer and dryer combo are working perfectly, which was a relief. Additionally, I appreciated American Home Shield’s coordination throughout this process. The repeated visits did become cumbersome, but they promptly addressed the issue by replacing the unit, which was much appreciated.

I called American Home Shield for air conditioning repairs, where a representative provided assistance over the phone. The technician they sent was quite helpful, and everything about the repair itself went smoothly.
Now, I'm awaiting another service for my refrigerator. American Home Shield notified me that the repair will take place between 11 AM and 5 PM. These ongoing interactions have mainly been seamless.
While I appreciate the customer service, I found parts of the coverage limited. For example, when it came to replacing Freon in my air conditioning, the warranty did not fully cover the expenses. I ended up paying $325 for three pounds, yet the warranty offset only $30. That was a surprise since the Freon costs are notably high.
Nonetheless, understanding these limits, I'd rate their warranty product at around 4 stars because it mostly covers needed repairs, though not always extensively. The initial sales process was pleasant and largely informative—I’d give that aspect another 4 stars due to the Freon oversight.
Despite these issues, the package's pricing is satisfactory, which I'd rate a 5 for its overall value. While I haven't engaged with their website, my interactions with American Home Shield offer peace of mind and valuable fixture care when breakdowns occur.
Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback with us regarding your air conditioning and refrigerator services. I took the opportunity to work with American Home Shield, given the need for a repair on my AC unit. I've had a warranty with them since purchasing my house back in 2014. Initially, their representative who visited was pleasant and had been to our home a few times over the years for various issues. However, a different technician who actually carried out the repair wasn't as polished and didn't communicate effectively. This has developed into a common pattern whenever we're in need of more intricate services.
As for the claim process itself, it generally takes quite some time for them to respond—regardless of urgency—leaving us in sweltering heat for nearly ten days. The customer interactions range with mixed experiences. While the support team is friendly, they often seem to be guided by call scripts and don't speak English fluently, which further complicates communication.
Moreover, certain vendors American Home Shield partners with, like Beaches Air Conditioning, seem to treat customers associated with AHS differently—oftentimes providing subpar service. Even in the midst of fulfilling regular repair duties, service delays make an uncomfortable situation worse, especially in extreme weather conditions.
Overall, it's been a frustrating blend of decent intentions hindered by ineffective execution and delayed processes. Most of the issues got resolved, but the slow response and communication barriers lead me to rate the experience a 2 out of 5. While it's nice that repairs are ultimately made, American Home Shield could implement enhancements like streamlining operations more effectively and ensuring better contractor relations moving forward.

Our upstairs bathroom had some residual material, and we were unsure if it was a backup or something that required snaking or draining. The plumber thoroughly checked everything and reassured us there were no blockages, resolving the problem promptly.
While Advanced Drains had provided satisfactory service, my experience with American Home Shield itself has been mixed. Although it's convenient to have a service to rely on, reaching American Home Shield can be quite a hassle. Getting through to them takes a while, and their service has become increasingly expensive. The costs for being a member are $100 a month, and every call-out incurs an additional $100 fee. With prices creeping up, their affordability on a fixed income becomes questionable.
Communication with American Home Shield sometimes presents challenges due to language barriers, and on one occasion, they scheduled a much later appointment than needed. I had to insist on an earlier appointment because I knew a contractor who could come out sooner. This unnecessary rigmarole slightly strained my experience with them.
I usually prefer to call rather than use their online services, valuing direct communication with a representative. In rating my overall experience with American Home Shield, I would give it a 3 out of 5. However, the quality of service from technicians and contractors deserves a higher 5 out of 5. That said, the rising costs bring my financial satisfaction down to a 3. Despite some hurdles, American Home Shield remains a workable choice for my needs, hence why I've recommended it to others in certain contexts.

In the past, American Home Shield would promptly send reputable contractors who tackled issues efficiently, but my recent encounters have been marred by less professional service providers. The technicians that American Home Shield sent out were usually professional in the past. The last group of people they sent out for my plumbing claim came out in unmarked cars. They did show me a badge. They did do an invoice. But it was like it wasn't really a company. It was just somebody you looked up. In the past, it's been someone that you could look up online and know that they were a company. But these last people were supposed to fix my plumbing. But they charged me an extra $300 for access to my plumbing line.
With my heating system, American Home Shield sent out a company that replaced the whole heating and air conditioning system, but did not replace the condenser that holds the water on top of the heating when the air is running. It rusted out. I had a flood in a cement basement and they wanted to stick by it. I ended up having to get in touch with somebody higher up because I wrote the president of the company a letter. So they had to come out and fix it. But not everybody is that fortunate.
These experiences have motivated me to explore alternatives as I'm disappointed with American Home Shield's deteriorating service quality. Fees continue to rise, but the level of service hasn't kept pace. American Home Shield should be honest about what they offer because right now, the consumer is not getting a complete picture of what they have to offer. They're telling you they cover your home in case of an emergency, but that's a lie.

I entered into an agreement with American Home Shield around the beginning of the year. Recently, I had MSC Inc. come out for the second time because the initial repair was ineffective. Initially, I was charged nearly $800 for Freon that wasn't even necessary as it turned out the thermostat was the real issue. I'm skeptical about whether they actually added Freon.
During their second visit, they attempted to charge me again, but after discussing with them how I had already paid so much, they consulted with their boss and decided to replace the thermostat at no additional charge. Although this finally solved the issue, they've yet to address my initial payment unfairly spent on Freon.
I feel it should fall on American Home Shield to advocate on my behalf, communicate with MSC Inc., and secure a refund for me. When Mary from RNS Electric, the contractor dispatched by American Home Shield, came over, she confirmed this by tapping the socket. It literally sparked, and she recognized it was due to the outlet being "closed." Mary rewired it carefully, explaining throughout the process.
She educated me on the power requirements of my electric fireplace heater, suggesting an update from my current outdated wattage. However, this update wasn’t covered by American Home Shield; it was something I had to handle separately since my home is older and limited to 25 watts, whereas I needed an upgrade to 50 watts.
After over five years with American Home Shield, there was only one instance with some plumbing in my bathroom that needed more attention, but they effectively resolved it by substituting a less satisfactory plumber with a more reliable one. They continuously uphold their reputation by swiftly addressing issues and sending skilled service providers. That transparency is noteworthy because every inspector fully explains what they're doing, ensuring thorough communication.
Because of my positive experience, I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to three others, and they've signed up with satisfaction too. I would gladly share how American Home Shield’s responsive service, professional conduct, and thoroughness in communication mark their standout qualities.
Thank you for sharing your excellent feedback about your experience with American Home Shield. It's fulfilling to know that, after over five years with us, you continue to appreciate the swift and professional service provided by our team of skilled contractors. Your referrals mean a lot to us, as positive experiences like yours highlight the attentive customer service, communication excellence, and operational transparency that we strive to uphold. My refrigerator wasn't making ice. Amtech services came out promptly to tackle the problem, and initially, it seemed they had fixed it. However, recurring issues persisted. Despite reaching out for further assistance, I faced frustrating delays, with their responsiveness falling short of my expectations. When I reached Amtech directly, my calls went unanswered after several attempts, compelling me to contact American Home Shield directly. Regrettably, their slowness persisted, taking two weeks for the technician to follow up. Consequently, I ultimately decided to cancel the service to forego further expense without satisfactory results.
Regarding American Home Shield's customer service, direct interaction with them often involved extended wait times or diversion to automated responses unless the inquiry pertained to billing or subscriptions. This was frustratingly time-consuming, encompassing a week-long process for a mere response. I can say that my sentiment remained unfulfilled regarding their resolution speed.
Hello Duane, we are sorry to hear that you experience with us has been less than satisfactory when it comes to your refrigerator. Are you still experiencing issues with this request? If so, I will look into this request and work to gain a resolution for you. Also, I want to make you aware that during peak season, calls have long wait time due to high call volume, and you may utilize our other outlets for a timely response. RPS Appliance is a competent and professional company, but American Home Shield frequently sends the wrong parts, despite clear instructions from RPS Appliance about what is needed. My ongoing issue stretches over three months now, with unresolved problems regarding my oven. I recently had to face a similar frustration with replacing an ice maker, taking multiple visits and parts mismatched to finally get it somewhat functional.
It's disheartening to rely on appliance services that appear to cut costs at every corner. I stumbled upon many poor reviews about AHS partnering companies, with even some legal actions initiated by dissatisfied customers. This reflects consistently in their service — where cost-saving overtakes customer satisfaction, resulting in prolonged issues and unwelcome stress.
Over the years since starting my service in 2016, I have regularly received subpar service, and companies AHS has assigned, often appear incompetent or mismanaged. Despite assurances about premium service and meticulous care in maintenance, my experiences suggest otherwise. They once suggested the only service in my area was a repetitive poor-choice but with persistence could rearrange for a reputable company, acknowledging its increased cost.
I've decided this is where I'll part ways with AHS, rejecting renewing my coverage. If they prioritized understanding and addressing repeated consumer feedback for quality service and accurately paired supportive maintenance enterprises, they'd perhaps maintain long-term clients like me, who find value in dependable home solutions.

My garage door, previously installed by the former homeowners, had been giving me trouble. The technician sent by American Home Shield did a commendable job with the repairs, though he candidly mentioned that my setup was outdated. It was clear I needed significant updates, with the springs worn out and the motor overtaxed due to an improper fit.
My dilemma is whether to call them back for more temporary fixes or save for a thorough overhaul instead. The technician was upfront and did his utmost given the state of the garage door, but it's clear more extensive work is required. It's unclear in my discussions with American Home Shield if there's an option for a second opinion.
I've had positive interactions with other service providers sent through American Home Shield, such as plumbers. The online portal for setting up service requests is quite efficient, often getting responses within a couple of days. This experience, however, with the garage door leaves me in two minds. If the product continues to function subpar, I plan to delve deeper into my options with American Home Shield.
In terms of feedback, I find their overall service satisfactory. I would give them a four out of five. While their service and responsiveness have been good, price hikes have taken away some of the appeal. Specifically, their easy-to-navigate online system earns high marks from me. Despite my experience not being perfect, I am satisfied to have their coverage, having benefited from services like water heater replacements which saved me considerable expenses upfront.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've experienced. Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us. Despite any shortcomings, we are grateful that you took the time to leave a review. Your feedback is invaluable and helps us improve our services.

Initially, the refrigerator wasn't cooling and Sears struggled for two months without a resolution. American Home Shield then had Mr. Appliance take over, and they quickly diagnosed the issue.
Though we already had the parts, courtesy of the delays with Sears, Mr. Appliance came back to repair it. Unfortunately, the repair didn't succeed right away. The freezer wasn't reaching the needed temperatures, and there was an apparent internal leak in the coils. Eventually, American Home Shield decided the refrigerator had to be replaced.
Instead of a straightforward replacement, I received an e-card for a partial amount. They subtracted the ineffective service costs from that total, covering only half of what was needed for a new appliance.
My experience started perfectly but faltered greatly with this fridge issue. The customer service score from past experiences would be a 5, but in this instance, the fridge repair was unsatisfactory,.

It began when my tenant notified me that the mini split in our property stopped working. Initially, a technician from Third Generation diagnosed a bad circuit board and suggested a fan motor replacement. The fan motor replacement took weeks, only to find out later it was something else. They replaced the circuit board, and for a moment, it worked. But soon after, my tenant called again, reporting the issue persisted.
Further checks indicated it was an electrical problem, although the breakers showed no faults, according to the initial report. I personally discovered the breakers were blown and replaced them myself. Even after an electrician ensured everything was receiving power, the system still wouldn't operate. American Home Shield dispatched another technician who said the compressor was faulty, mentioning dye present in the Freon – something I surely didn't add.
Despite waiting weeks for a response to this last issue, I was finally informed that the damage was due to 'unusual use,' and they refused to cover it. I'm baffled since the system functioned perfectly up until two months ago under regular conditions. Due to this frustrating ordeal and having spent over two months without air conditioning, I firmly decided not to continue with American Home Shield. I’d advise anyone considering them to stay away, as my experience with their service was deeply disappointing and far from satisfactory.

I needed assistance with an AC repair through American Home Shield and unfortunately, my experience wasn't satisfactory. When J & S All Tech handled the repairs, the technician indicated the capacitor needed replacement and mentioned additional maintenance work that wasn't covered. He assured me that I'd receive receipts for the extra work, but I never did despite paying him. I tried reaching out, but he never returned my calls, and even hung up on my wife.
Despite relaying my dissatisfaction in the survey I filled out for American Home Shield, I didn't receive a response regarding this issue. Their past services had been more reliable, with prompt communication and proper documentation provided via email or text, which was why this incident was so frustrating.
This situation underscored the need for improved follow-up from American Home Shield. After all, reliable documentation is essential not only for peace of mind but also for tax purposes. If something isn't properly documented, it’s hard to have faith in the outcome.
On a broader note, I've always been content with other claims under my home warranty service in the past. However, this recent experience left me wary, especially since timely repairs can be crucial—as with my current sump pump claim. My hot water heater was leaking. The technician American Home Shield assigned was great, but unfortunately, there was a hiccup with the parts ordering process. American Home Shield ordered the wrong water heater, making it a taller and skinnier model which was unsuitable. This mistake led to a lost day of work for me, as I took a day off only to find out about this error after the fact. Thankfully, they managed to deliver the correct parts within a couple of days, and the technician returned to complete the installation promptly in the morning after my overnight shift. Since then, everything has been working well. AHS should let the technician that does the repair make that order so what happened won't happen again. I ended up missing out on 160 bucks.

We're sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused by the incorrect water heater that resulted in a lost workday for you. We understand how frustrating this can be and apologize for the oversight. Fast Response Heating recently replaced a piece in my air conditioning unit in a timely manner. However, American Home Shield typically finds the cheapest fix for issues rather than offering a comprehensive solution. Over the years we've used their service, it's as if they're just putting a temporary band-aid on the problem, never fully addressing it.
Whenever the heat rises or drops to extreme temperatures, our air conditioning or furnace would fail, leading to repeated calls and visits. Instead of thoroughly solving the issue, they repeatedly make minimal repairs, leading me to feel like this service is more like catastrophic insurance than an everyday solution. I've had this experience for almost a decade.
Setting up requests online is simple; I'd give their online service a solid score due to how efficiently it's managed and how easily I procure services. However, given the hassles and ongoing issues with repair quality, I would warn friends and family about their approach.

The interaction was quite positive, as the representatives I spoke to were courteous and supportive. In terms of service efficiency, they arranged for someone to come out fairly quickly—within a day or two, which I appreciated.
The repair work done by Discount Contractors was satisfactory—they did what was required to address the plumbing issue. However, I did face a hiccup regarding the faucet replacement, which did not match the existing ones in my home because American Home Shield couldn’t supply a matching faucet.
Although the service was timely, I now have to purchase an additional faucet to ensure everything matches, which I'm not thrilled about—especially given what I perceive as a somewhat high cost associated with their service plan.

We needed a plumbing repair when we encountered issues with our toilets; some valves were rusted and required immediate attention. Chris The Plumber demonstrated impressive professionalism and efficiently resolved the problem, ensuring everything worked perfectly by the end of the visit.
However, my experience took a downturn when I needed assistance with a separate HVAC issue. Another company, 24/7, was dispatched by American Home Shield, and they were far from helpful. They were only at my house briefly, were rude, and failed to fix the leaking valve related to the boiler. Their approach left me disappointed and frustrated, as they insisted that fixing the issue would incur additional costs and ultimately did nothing to remedy the situation.
This prompted me to reach out to American Home Shield to report the inadequacy of 24/7's service and seek a resolution. Unfortunately, getting a clear answer regarding coverage from American Home Shield's customer service proved difficult. Whenever I reached out, the response was inadequate, often with representatives who barely understood English and left many of my inquiries unanswered. This lack of clarity and the inability to verify what my warranty covered was particularly concerning. As a reflection, I would rate my overall satisfaction with American Home Shield's service around a three, because the frustration with communication and lack of accountability overshadowed the effectiveness of Chris The Plumber's initial repair.

I’ve used American Home Shield intermittently over the past years, sometimes switching companies when dissatisfied. The reason being, there have been inconsistent experiences with their customer service — with some representatives well-informed while others provide conflicting information.
A significant hurdle has been the delayed process of assigning vendors to fix issues. On multiple occasions, I've waited over a week for a technician to be dispatched to not only acknowledge an issue but also to schedule repairs, which becomes troublesome for critical appliances like refrigerators or washers. Moreover, the language barrier with their customer support team often leads to communication challenges, adding to the mishandling of service requests or miscommunication, as exemplified by an instance where dual payments were mistakenly deducted from my account.
On the positive side, American Home Shield has, on occasion, replaced large items like my hot water tank and pool loader with equal or better models. Unfortunately, their online system is often outdated, leading to further frustrations in communication and service continuity. In my proactive efforts, I constantly felt burdened with "chasing" solutions rather than receiving a seamless service expected from my investment in the warranty. American Home Shield should step up and make sure stuff gets done.

My recent experience with their AC repair service, however, was less than satisfactory. When Comfort Experts first came out, the technician didn't even bother to look inside the AC unit. He left within 30 minutes, and unsurprisingly, my AC stopped working again after a week.
Though they returned after my complaint, it was only then that they identified that a crucial part was needed for repair. It's frustrating, especially considering that I am terminally ill, and I've been dealing with the unresolved issue since June 30th.
The first technician showed a lack of professionalism, having not accomplished anything. Thankfully, the second visit included two technicians, seemingly more experienced, who immediately saw that the problem could have been fixed much sooner.

Despite relying on AHS for nearly a decade with satisfactory results, my recent experience left me disappointed due to an issue with a technician from Axis Appliance. We had a burner issue on our stove, and the first technician seemed unable to remove bolts, leading him to drill into the appliance, which I found concerning. Unfortunately, the technician recorded that we neglected regular maintenance on the stove, which I disagreed with since the stove predated our ownership.
While American Home Shield has previously helped us with various appliance repairs like washers, dryers, ovens, and AC units without any issues, this encounter has made me reconsider their service—it's the contractors they're using that seem to cause hiccups now. Though we decided on newer appliances because of this, and while our satisfaction has dipped to about a 3 out of 5, I still believe the company itself generally provides adequate service.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention, Gene. We understand that it can be upsetting when it is determined that a repair is not covered by your home warranty. According to our records, two different contractors diagnosed the issue with the appliance and it was determined that the failures did not fall within the coverage as outlined in the home warranty plan agreement.
If you have any additional questions, concerns, or if you may want to discuss your plan coverage further, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly at 1-800-776-4663, and we would be happy to speak with you.

I recently needed a repair for my refrigerator and American Home Shield sent a technician to check it out. The first technician left without solving the problem, indicating it couldn't be fixed. They then coordinated with another service provider who assessed the situation and concluded the refrigerator was beyond repair. True to their commitment, they offered to replace the refrigerator, and it was replaced just yesterday.
The entire process took three weeks, but it's important to mention that some of the delay was due to my availability issues rather than solely being on the company. I've been with American Home Shield for four years since I bought my house, and while it's not been perfect, the service has been satisfactory enough for me to remain their customer. I had an issue with my electric service and the technician that American Home Shield sent out was outstanding. He found and fixed the problem remarkably quickly. Everything has been working beautifully since the repair, and I appreciate the professional service. I've had American Home Shield take care of other appliance issues, like my dryer and washer, and overall, I've been quite satisfied with their service. The only slight improvement could be speeding up the response time from when a service is requested to when the technician arrives, as waiting three or four days can be inconvenient. However, the quality of the professionals they send makes this an area that's minorly overlooked. Overall, I'll continue to rely on American Home Shield for future needs and appreciate how they keep everything running smoothly in my home.

My air compressor stopped blowing cold air, and getting the correct parts proved slow due to some miscommunication between American Home Shield and their service partner, Airserve. They initially attempted a fix, but it turned out my model was no longer available, which led to needing an upgrade. Once everything was sorted out, the issue was resolved within about 4-5 days, although my system was down for a couple of weeks. This was the first time I encountered an issue with the process, as previous claims have usually been resolved within a week and we've handled repairs to things like our fridge without any problems. During a recent issue with my appliance, I encountered two vastly different service calls from American Home Shield's contractors. The first technician from Atlas Appliance seemed disinterested in helping, quickly concluding that my washing machine wasn't worth fixing due to maintenance issues, including mold. He didn't make much of an effort beyond that conclusion and simply left after a short visit, which left me dissatisfied. Fortunately, I was able to schedule a second appointment with a different technician two days later. This time, the technician clearly knew his craft. He identified the issue as being a problem with the boot, due to noise and water leakage, and resolved it efficiently. It took him less than an hour to fix everything, and my washing machine has been functioning great since.
My overall takeaway from American Home Shield is that while some technicians are highly skilled, others might not be as diligent. This was similar to when I had pool issues – the first team didn't solve anything, but the second team successfully fixed everything. Because of this inconsistency, I'm rating them a 4 out of 5, but I'll continue using American Home Shield.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the mixed experiences you encountered during the service calls. It's reassuring to know that the second technician you worked with provided a solution and restored your washing machine to excellent working condition. At American Home Shield, our goal is always to provide consistent, high-quality service.
We value your continued trust in us, despite the inconsistencies noted, and look forward to meeting your expectations in future service calls. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything further we can assist you with. Thank you again for taking the time to provide this feedback.

However, the response time was disappointing as the technician didn't come out until several days later, even after stressing the urgency due to having my grandkids at home and my grandson's asthma. When the contractor from Myers Comfort Specialist of Birmingham arrived, he was very professional and courteous. He diagnosed the issue quickly, the problem was with the capacitor, and resolved it efficiently. Since his visit, everything has been functioning well.
I've been with American Home Shield for about five and a half years. During this time, there were two service interactions that were fine, but this last experience with the delay was frustrating. They replaced my stove without issue previously, which left a positive impression. However, they should consider an emergency protocol to address urgent situations faster. My dishwasher was leaking water down into the basement. Initially, it was a challenging situation. I had multiple vendors attempt repairs, but none could resolve the issue. Each interaction was disappointing, and even at one point, a broken door was installed.
Eventually, Sears was involved, and they were fantastic. The technician named Bill identified the problem and took the necessary steps to fix it, although it involved ordering several parts and making multiple visits. Thanks to his diligence, American Home Shield agreed to replace the faulty unit, ensuring I got a model with all the desired features.
I faced some unexpected hurdles along the way. When American Home Shield decided to replace the dishwasher, the first model suggested lacked features that were important to me, so they readily telephoned me with a substitute matching my needs more closely. While I'm still awaiting its delivery, the process itself has restored my faith in their service.
However, I did encounter some frustration regarding communication—specifically when my rate increased from $75 to $89 without clear notification, which is a significant change. It was a surprising discovery made during my financial review for taxes. On the upside, I received meaningful guidance on issues concerning our oven when replaced.
Despite the initial chaos, the latter part of the process showed excellence in service, particularly with communication from the Sears team regarding scheduling and any necessary changes. Although I endured being without a working dishwasher for months, reactions at American Home Shield reflected an understanding of the issue's seriousness, ultimately committing to an effective solution. All factors considered, although there were rough patches that were distressing, things ended on an affirming note, highlighting the advantages of professional, accommodative service.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us—we are truly grateful for detailed feedback. We're pleased to hear that, despite initially facing several disappointments with your dishwasher, American Home Shield and the committed technicians from Sears managed to see the issue through to an eventual solution. We understand how crucial direct communication and transparent processes are.

In spite of my long-standing relationship of nearly 20 years with American Home Shield, my recent experience with their service was less than satisfactory. When my washing machine broke down, I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield, who then assigned Exmore Repair Services to handle the repairs. Unfortunately, it took Exmore nearly a month to fix the washer, requiring three separate visits. Initially, they replaced a part which didn't work, causing further delays and forcing me to incur extra costs for laundry services elsewhere.
Communication during this ordeal was lacking. Though I reached out via email to American Home Shield, the responses were mainly from Exmore. I expected better service, especially given the long period I've been with them. This experience left me quite disappointed, as I believe the process should've been more efficient considering the high fees I pay. When my air conditioning system needed attention, the initial company recommended replacing the whole system, which seemed excessive. American Home Shield then sent out Ambient Air, who initially misunderstood the issue as merely needing a filter change. It wasn't until they inspected the attic that they identified the actual problem. The delay and misdiagnosis hinted at gaps in communication between American Home Shield and their contractors.
While I've had no issues with smaller appliance repairs, and they are generally prompt and efficient in those cases, the dealings with air conditioning repairs seem less satisfactory. A friend faced similar delays with his air conditioner and ended up canceling his service. On the one hand, the customer service aspect has been excellent. I've had no issues in that department and found them responsive and courteous whenever I reached out regarding my heating and cooling concerns.
However, a significant drawback has been the actual coverage provided by the plan. I often found myself having to pay out of pocket for services, which left me questioning the benefit of the coverage. A specific example is the cost of coolant, where I only received a minor discount on something that is quite expensive. I felt that, given the premium I pay, more substantial coverage or cost-sharing could have been appreciated.
In the end, it's this gap between the promised coverage and what's actually delivered that led me to reconsider continuing with American Home Shield. Unfortunately, I'm not inclined to recommend their services based on my experience.

When I had an issue with my air conditioner, American Home Shield's response was prompt; they sent a technician who quickly identified the problem as a slight freon insufficiency and topped it up. The entire procedure was smooth, and the contractor they sent was incredibly professional and courteous, which I appreciated.
In terms of service performance since then, I'd say it's been stable, no further hiccups. The only hiccup during my experience was the lack of disclosure regarding a service call fee of $125 — something I wish I'd known beforehand.
Regarding their customer service, I felt they delivered adequately, and I'll give them a commendable rating. I see them favorably across other aspects as well. I currently have 4 houses under American Home Shield's coverage. I recently encountered an issue with my garage door, and Ace's Garage Door Repair, sent by American Home Shield, came out to address it. They determined that my old garage door opener from the 70s was beyond repair, though it had been a long-lasting workhorse for my family. Additionally, the spring of the door needed replacement due to the door's weight.
Ace technicians decided to replace the garage door opener and informed me that the spring replacement would not be covered by the home warranty. They handled both tasks promptly and efficiently, though they submitted the claim for the garage door opener only after starting the work instead of waiting for American Home Shield's authorization. This led to some miscommunication, but it was not the fault of American Home Shield, and the garage company probably tried to be expedited by handling everything simultaneously.
Over the years, my experience with American Home Shield has been mostly positive. Customer service has been reliable, with everyone being polite and the process smooth. Requests typically take a little while to be processed, but that's expected given the industry's nature. I appreciate the ease of using their online portal to set up service requests, which I often find to be both efficient and user-friendly.
The pricing for their service has gone up to about $100-$125 per house annually, which I find steep, although I can't fully judge its fairness from a business standpoint. Nevertheless, the peace of mind and coverage they offer make it worth it, even if I rate the price satisfaction at about a 3.5. Overall, despite a slight delay sometimes, I would recommend American Home Shield to family and friends as it had delivered on its promises for me.

His professionalism left such a good impression that I was tempted to keep him around!
This being my initial experience with a home warranty provider like American Home Shield, it was a learning curve for me. I didn’t know I could have also included my air conditioning in the coverage. Given the need for more cool air upstairs, adding my AC should have been a priority. These initial mistakes, namely not bundling services, were on me, but I’m glad for the education.

We had an issue with our heating system earlier this year, which required three different service repairs and a total of at least five visits before it was resolved. While this started off as a frustrating process, I was thoroughly impressed with the final technician from Comfort Pro Heating and Cooling who showcased great professionalism and expertise.
Submitting the claim was straightforward, despite having a recurring challenge with communication between my devices and the company's system. Phone calls remained the preferred method for me, given my constant travel and preference for immediate interaction.
Most of the time, dealing with American Home Shield is quite smooth. Although I'm accustomed to both old and modern communication devices, the transition to more automated systems has been manageable. Despite having some initial hiccups with the claim process, I find the coverage and pricing of American Home Shield reasonable, especially when considering the potential high costs of significant repairs, like new water heaters or air conditioning systems.

We have had Fast Response come out three times. The first time, there was a clog which they were able to address. However, the second visit revealed all our Freon had leaked out, requiring replacement along with a part needing to be changed.
Unfortunately, they didn't show us where the Freon was leaking but informed us that it was fixed. Even after the refill, the air was lukewarm instead of cold. On the third visit, they discovered a clogged dryer filter, but we're still waiting for the parts to arrive.
Throughout the summer, our house didn’t cool down, and the lowest we've seen on the thermostat was 79 degrees, only in the early hours. As it's an older system from 2011, it feels like we're just applying temporary fixes rather than a long-term solution.
I found their customer service to be very accommodating though, especially within a 30-day window, allowing us service visits without additional charges.
If I had to rate American Home Shield on different fronts: the overall service gets a 2 due to constant issues without resolution; customer service deserves a 5, thanks to their polite handling and response times; the ease of using their website for service requests also gets a 5. In terms of pricing, I'd give it a 3. Although we initially contact them online, additional fees when called within the warranty period make the overall cost questionable considering the incomplete effectiveness.
High service delays also concern me—the last service call resulted in a delay from Saturday to Friday the following week, leaving us uncomfortable in the heat. While they seem helpful, more technicians would improve response times drastically. We've even resorted to purchasing portable air conditioners and fans due to ineffective cooling in our home.
A major drawback is that typical home insurance doesn’t cover new systems, and American Home Shield offers just a portion of the cost, making long-term fixes seem unreachable unless the system breaks down completely.
Despite the challenges, I value their attempt at accommodating refunds for temporary fixes.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

I've had American Home Shield's coverage since 2023, and it has been a beneficial investment. Not long ago, I encountered a situation where the Southern Air & Heat company visited to fix an issue; my air conditioning wasn't working, leaving the house hot during a particularly sweltering week. They identified the need for a chemical clean as the pressure couldn't be read, but thankfully no additional Freon was needed. American Home Shield approved the procedure quickly, ensuring my home climate returned to comfort.
I find their service exemplary; their responses are prompt, resolving my service needs efficiently without any nuisance, with the customer service being notably courteous. The ease of addressing claims makes the process hassle-free. If I set my air conditioning to a particular temperature, they ensure it maintains that level, providing a reliable service for temperature control in both downstairs and upstairs areas.
The cost is a reasonable trade-off for the comprehensive coverage I get, although the service call fee recently increased to $130 from $120, presumably due to inflation—understandable under current economic conditions. Though I appreciate its value, I'd rate the price aspect a little lower at 3.5, primarily due to these changes.

When I had an appliance issue, American Home Shield dispatched AZ Major Appliance Repair. While the appliance technicians were knowledgeable and provided satisfactory service, my experience wasn't entirely positive across the board. I faced significant challenges, especially with the electrical technicians. They didn't confirm appointment details and were often late. They said they showed up, but they never showed up based on the time that they said they would, so this is a bad experience.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention, Bob. I hate to hear that you did not have a positive experience and were not pleased with the service provided. Your satisfaction is important to us. I would be happy to contact you and offer any assistance that may be required.

The dishwasher was broken. American Home Shield's process for submitting a claim was easy. I called them directly, and a company, Air Wide Advanced Appliances LLC, reached out to set up an appointment seamlessly. The technician sent by Airwide was fantastic, reflecting true knowledge and dedication. I've interacted with several contractors through American Home Shield, and although they've mostly been competent, there was an instance where an air conditioning contractor delivered a less-than-stellar performance. They were nearly impossible to reach—a genuine headache. Nonetheless, all my other experiences were perfectly fine.

My experience with American Home Shield was a mixed bag. I recently had an issue with my plumbing, so I called in H&K Plumbing through American Home Shield. They arrived and managed to repair the kitchen sink by fixing the problem under the pipe, which was a relief. However, when it came to my commercial shower, they were unable to address the issue, stating that they don't typically work on those. This left me with unresolved problems regarding the shower. I was informed I’d hear back from American Home Shield about this situation, but after just a few days from their visit, I'm still waiting for more information. Overall, I would rate my experience a 3, mainly because of the partial resolution to my problem.
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention, Romaine. I am sorry to hear that the additional plumbing issue was not resolved. Normally, the home warranty would not cover commercial-grade equipment. However, I would be happy to contact you to discuss the matter further.

I had past experiences with American Home Shield that were positive. However, our recent interaction left me slightly disappointed. We've been customers for about 20 years, and most service instances have been commendable. Nevertheless, this time around, we faced a problematic setup. When reporting a plumbing issue, an appliance repair tech was dispatched instead, creating unnecessary additional service calls. American Home Shield did rectify it by eventually sending the correct professional, a plumber, who was excellent.
The initial miscommunication, I suspect, may have stemmed from a language barrier during the original call. All in all, despite this hiccup, the majority of our dealings with American Home Shield have been great. Historically, their technicians are very professional, and this singular oversight hasn't dampened my confidence in them as a reliable service provider. So, I'd still recommend them based on our overall experience.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and being a loyal member for nearly 20 years. We apologize for the recent inconvenience regarding the initial miscommunication. We're glad to hear that the situation was eventually addressed with the assistance of a professional plumber. Maintaining the highest service standards is important to us, and your comments are invaluable in assisting us to enhance communications and service. Their service was impressively quick and efficient. The technicians who came were extremely professional. They notified me in advance that they'd be arriving within 15-20 minutes, introduced themselves politely, and listened attentively to understand the problem. They worked very cleanly, and even took the initiative to clean any dirty water that spilled, despite my reassurances that I would mop it up. Overall, American Home Shield has been very reliable and easy to work with, especially when it comes to submitting claims. It's truly effortless; even someone like me can figure it out without a hitch. The representatives always made sure I was informed, explaining things in layman's terms, which I appreciated immensely.
While most of the contractors they arranged were good, my experience with Comfort First Heating and Cooling LLC was quite frustrating. They did eventually solve my thermostat and sensor issues, but it took too long without adequate cooling, which was problematic given the extreme heat we were experiencing in North Carolina. Luckily, the relentless support from American Home Shield made a big difference. They stepped up and applied the necessary pressure to get the contractors back out, saving us from a longer ordeal without AC.
In terms of customer service, I honestly haven't encountered a big company with such stellar service in recent years. They're diligent about follow-ups and consistently check on how things are going post-service. This level of attention and care is precisely why I give American Home Shield the highest praise and have recommended them to many others.

I signed up with American Home Shield about a year ago, but my experience has been nothing short of disappointing. From the start, their customer service has been awful. It feels like they're actively looking for ways to avoid adhering to their policies, which is frustrating.
When it comes to the technicians they send, I expected professionals. However, I've found that they seem more like general handymen rather than specialists. For example, if you need an electrician, you might get someone who can use a screwdriver but isn't a certified electrician. This has led to subpar quality work.
Moreover, the essence of having a warranty is to call them when there's a problem, and they should take care of it. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been my experience. They send someone out who doesn’t fix the issue, and they don’t pay for it to get resolved either, leaving the problem unfixed while wasting time and money.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've encountered, and I want to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I’d truly appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience further and work toward a resolution.

I believed American Home Shield's coverage might handle issues with my appliances effectively. Unfortunately, my experience didn't meet this expectation. When my ice maker broke, it took three technicians from American Home Shield before any real action was taken. The first two technicians attempted repairs that simply didn't solve the problem, and ultimately, it was not deemed fixable until Garrett’s Cleaning team arrived.
Despite being promised up to $2000 for repair or replacement of my appliance, the initial cash offer for my broken refrigerator was significantly below that amount. After weeks of persistently reaching out, filing reports with the Better Business Bureau, and communicating with multiple supervisors, American Home Shield agreed to increase their offer, but it was still a long and frustrating process. Communicating with them was challenging as well; there was no online option, and returning calls took a day each time. Because of these ongoing issues, coupled with unsatisfactory customer service experiences, my sentiment toward the service overall has been negative.
I understand how frustrating this experience must have been, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you further and address your concerns.

American Home Shield seemed to offer a comprehensive solution. Initially, my experience was positive and over the last two years, they've provided reliable service. Unfortunately, this year has been an exception, especially with a claim related to my heating system.
My recent dealings with them regarding a furnace and heat pump issue have been awfully frustrating. When Metropolitan Site & Safety came out, the technician gave conflicting information, didn't communicate well, and continually directed me back to American Home Shield for updates. Despite reaching out consistently, I didn’t get a straight answer about the parts needed for the repair. Instead, I received an email stating my ticket was closed, claiming the repairs were complete, while that was far from true.
After more delays, the contractor admitted the parts weren't coming and needed payment. I reopened the ticket, yet the cycle began anew. Home Shield promised repairs after another month, subjecting me to additional costs, which was frustrating but inevitable at this point. As I’m still waiting for resolution, including compensation promises, the communication and service have fallen short this year.
Despite these recent struggles, for the past couple of years, I'd have no hesitation in giving American Home Shield a good rating for overall service. Their coverage was previously hassle-free, which makes this deviation even more unpleasant. I’d cautiously recommend them based on previous satisfaction, hoping my challenges were just an anomaly. My trust stands tested, hoping for the service quality I was accustomed to the previous years.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the frustrating experience you've encountered this year regarding your heating system claim. We greatly value your past positive interactions with American Home Shield and are concerned about the service inconsistency you’ve described. The difficulties experienced in obtaining clarity on your case is not representative of the level of service we strive to provide.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. Your ongoing trust despite these challenges is essential to us, and we'd like to restore your confidence. Please feel free to reach out directly should you require any further assistance.

I filed a claim online when I had a plumbing issue with a leak, and it was a straightforward process. Navigating American Home Shield's site was simple and user-friendly.
When Myers Comfort Specialist came out, the interaction with the technician was smooth; they were professional and straightforward. They ended up replacing the toilet tank line, and it has been functioning well, especially considering it's for my winter home where I haven't encountered any complaints.
I find the service to be reasonably priced, though timeliness in contractor responses could use some improvement. I remember waiting around a week and a half to hear back, which was not ideal. Despite that, American Home Shield has been quite reliable overall, having requested assistance a couple of times. In fact, I've just filed another request regarding roof leaks, so I'll be evaluating the process again soon.
To friends and family, I'd describe American Home Shield as a reliable company for the most part—essentially a service you can count on 9 times out of 10. This assessment is supported by the consistency I've seen in their customer service and coverage offerings.
Overall, based on my experience managing issues with my home, American Home Shield has lived up to the positive reputation I'd understood before signing up.

I would not recommend American Home Shield for a home warranty. My home was purchased over 4 years ago and at the time I elected to have a home warranty plan with American Home Shield. Over the past 4 years I've had 3 occasions to call for repairs. Two of the three requests were for minor plumbing issues (one in my bathroom and one in my laundry room). In both instances I paid the $100 service fee to have someone come out. They quoted me a price that did not seem reasonable, so I denied the service. In both cases I reached out directly to a plumber and it was fixed for just over what I paid for the American Home Shield service fee of $100 to do nothing. Both situations did not require the extensive work their contractors said needed to be done. The last situation had to do with my air conditioner that stopped working in 117 degree weather.
After 2 days I had a contractor come out who went on the roof, took pictures and said it would be a minimum of $1200 to repair. I denied this service and once again went directly to an air conditioning repairman who charged me $180 to fix my air. I don't know why I kept their coverage after my first 2 experiences, but I finally learned my lesson after the air conditioning situation. I cancelled my service and will be taking the money I was paying monthly and putting it into a slush fund for any future repairs which I think will be more beneficial.
Thank you for sharing your American Home Shield experience. We understand the concerns regarding previous service issues and hope you continue to enjoy AHS!

My water heater broke and American Home Shield swiftly handed my case to Poseidon Plumbing, who contacted me the following morning to schedule a visit. However, scheduling took around four to five days, longer than I preferred. Once Poseidon assessed the situation, they submitted their findings to American Home Shield.
Unfortunately, there were complications with my contact information—the email AHS had on file was incorrect, an issue I've attempted to rectify multiple times. This miscommunication led to me not receiving essential notifications, including details on an uncovered cost significantly higher than anticipated. I was disheartened to find that of an expected comprehensive coverage, I still had to pay $1,200 out-of-pocket.
Though Poseidon Plumbing was communicative and helpful, guiding me through their process and potential coverage options, the lack of transparency from American Home Shield was troubling. I felt there should have been clearer information on what expenses were covered. Customer service could have offered higher-tier coverage for better protection, which they didn't. Consequently, I considered canceling my plan, questioning the value of what I've returned for the premiums paid over the past few years.
While my experience with American Home Shield was generally unsatisfactory due to these billing and communication issues, Poseidon Plumbing earned a much higher rating for their diligence and transparency.

First of all they are complete liars. This warranty company is a scam. Absolute garbage. They said they cover such and such and send someone out for a minute and the service is denied. They wouldn’t even refund the service fee. Don’t get any of these home warranties.
Hello Teaba. Thank you for your feedback. I apologize that you found the warranty to not be of benefit to you. However, you may have a misconception regarding how home warranty plans work.
Warranty plans cover specific service situations and act to reduce repair costs. The caveats of coverage are 1) a technician's diagnosis indicates that the damage was caused by normal wear and tear and 2) these occurred under the circumstances indicated as covered in your warranty. Not every situation is covered, unfortunately. That is true with every form of warranty or insurance that you can purchase. If you had a situation in which you did not have coverage, then there was a specific reason for that authorization decision, and that reason and the contractual explanation was sent to you via email or communicated to you by a telephone agent.
If you would like our team to review the service request you are referring to, please send an email with the contract holder's name, the contract address, and the header "ATTN: Ken " to socialmedia@ahs.com. Also include a brief explanation of the service complaint that you have. Thank you.

When I recently dealt with Comfort Pros for an issue, I was way more than disappointed. The Comfort Pros technician claimed he needed to fill my unit without knowing how much Freon it required. Shockingly, the information was on the unit label—a fact I discovered too late. This led to spending $400 unnecessarily, only to find out that there might still be a leak. The process felt convoluted, as though they were simply guessing without a strategy.
Seeking advice, I contacted two other HVAC companies who mentioned I could pursue legal action against Comfort Pros for their lack of professionalism. To add to my frustration, my wife—who’s a real estate agent—disclosed that one of her clients is in litigation with Comfort Pros over another mishap.

Policy coverage is a waste of money. The service people they send to “fix” the issue won’t completely fix anything and state that’s all they can do because AHS won’t allow them to completely cover it. The AC company was forced to use coolant that is now considered illegal because they didn't want to replace the damaged item. Attempting to cancel is a complete nightmare. I had 2 properties and only wanted to cancel 1. The customer service rep would not stop offering services to the point I finally asked her to cancel both policies because there was no way I’m going to deal with them anymore. They lost my service for both instead of just the 1 because of her. They need better training and they need to actually fix things they say they will in their contract.
Hello Felicia. Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to see that we no longer have you as a customer, and I understand your frustration with your customer service encounter.
The HVAC refrigerant that you are referring to is R-22. R-22 is not illegal to use; its production was banned in 2020, but lawmakers specifically did not outlaw its continued use. Large stockpiles of this coolant are still available. When it is determined that an older system requires it, if it is available in that area, its use is authorized for repairs.
AHS will always attempt to repair before replacing an appliance or system. We will replace it if repair is impossible because parts are no longer available or if the repair is more expensive than replacement. This detail is clearly outlined in our contracts.
You mentioned a very specific service concern with an agent who needs additional training. I agree that this agent should not have continued to press or 'upsell' you on services when you requested to cancel one of your contracts. Please email our team at socialmedia@ahs.com. In the email, list your name, a brief explanation of what happened, and your contract address. Address your email as "ATTN: Ken". THIS IS AN AWFUL COMPANY, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. This is an update to the above review. I called and finally spoke to someone. I asked them, "Do you know how it feels to live in South Florida without AC?" The representative said, "I don't live in Florida, so I wouldn't know, and I should go to Home Depot and purchase a portable AC until the unit is fixed." Really???

The tech from All Brands Appliance Repair came out recently for my dryer. He did a very good job. A fusible link in there, in the dryer, made it quit working. So he had to fix it and was in and out in 25 minutes. The only thing I can complain about AHS is, every year, the price keeps going up. Other than that, they're a great warranty company. They've done jobs for me in both houses. I have two policies with them. The techs get out there pretty fast and fix things. Either they fix it or replace it. He came out there last month and put a water heater in. Luckily, he had one on the truck. In an hour, I had a new water heater.
Hello Eric!
That is wonderful to hear about your great customer service!Thank you for sharing your most recent AHS experience. We hope you continue to enjoy the customer service to ease your home repairs.
Thank you for being a valued warranty member of American Home Shield.

I’ve been a customer of AHS for eight years. While the service was generally acceptable early on, my experience over the past couple of years has been increasingly disappointing. For example, two years ago, my HVAC system stopped working. It took over a week for a technician to become available. When he arrived, he opened the unit, briefly inspected it, and stated that it had been struck by lightning and would not be covered under warranty. Without further explanation, he left—without reassembling the system. I had assumed he was going to retrieve tools or paperwork, but he simply departed, leaving the unit disassembled.
In April, I decided to cancel my plan. Since the company’s website doesn’t clearly list a contact number, I used the online chat feature and was told my cancellation had been processed. However, in July I noticed I was still being billed. I then found the phone number through a web search and called directly. The representative confirmed there were notes about my earlier cancellation request, but claimed I was supposed to call back to confirm the date I wanted to cancel—something I was never instructed to do. I had requested cancellation on the day my plan renewed, so I asked for a refund for July. I was told, quite bluntly, that no refund would be issued. The representative then canceled my plan effective immediately, but I was still charged for July, despite no longer having an active membership.
Unfortunately, my experience reflects a broader pattern: customer service has significantly declined, and many of the contractors appear more focused on denying coverage than resolving issues. The fact that they don't allow Facebook reviews should be evidence enough to stay away.
Hello Kyle. Thank you for review. I apologize for the issues you encountered with the assigned technician and with your attempt to cancel.
The technician likely left the unit disassembled because it was no operational and to facilitate repair by the next technician who would arrive. However, I understand your frustration that you were not consulted before he made this decision. The tech should have asked you if this was an option that you agreed to before he left.
Your contract cancellation should have been dated to the first time that you requested it. If you will reach out to us, I will check your account notes for this.

When my washing machine needed repair, unfortunately, the experience turned out to be quite challenging. The technician assigned by American Home Shield attempted to fix my washer, but during the process, they accidentally caused significant water damage. As they moved my dryer to access the valve, they pulled too hard, disconnecting the hose from the wall and causing water to flood multiple areas of my home, including the living and dining rooms, hall, and bedroom.
After calling both American Home Shield and the contractor for assistance, I found myself caught in a frustrating loop as both parties kept redirecting me to each other without offering a solution. To make matters worse, I was told by the contractor that the damage was due to a pre-existing leak, which was untrue. My floor was drenched with nearly three inches of water, and I found myself struggling to handle the situation on my own, especially since I’d just been discharged from the hospital.
Despite their prior record, this experience with American Home Shield's service left me thoroughly dissatisfied. The assigned technician neglected to take responsibility, and with both the company and the contractor refusing to help, I'm left to foot the bill for repairs.
Given these frustrations and the lack of accountability, I currently would rate my experience quite unfavorably. What was meant to be a simple appliance repair has caused significant stress and inconvenience, leaving me wary of choosing this service provider in the future.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

I had a claim to American Home Shield to repair my washing machine. The technician arrived, installed a part, and claimed to test it. However, it wasn't long before I found water spilling all over my floor when I used it. When I contacted them again, the contractor returned, apologized, and mentioned the first part was faulty. He ordered another part and came back to install it earlier today, but I haven't been able to test it yet.
The technician was polite and scheduled the service within the promised timeframe, but I'm unsure about the quality of the parts they use. My rating of the experience would be a 3, as I expected a more seamless repair process given their expertise.
When it comes to American Home Shield's customer service and the warranty coverage, I would also rate them a 3. Although satisfied to some degree, there's room for improvement, particularly in ensuring lasting repairs. Regarding the cost, I've noticed there are cheaper alternatives available and I'm considering exploring those options.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. We apologize for the inconvenience you faced with the repair process, including receiving what appears to be a faulty part initially, resulting in the continued issue with your washing machine. We understand how frustrating it must be and appreciate your positive recognition of the technician's politeness and scheduling adherence. If you require further assistance or have additional comments, don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your patience and for bringing your insights to our attention.

I was interested in American Home Shield's coverage for air conditioners. I found the service quite exceptional, particularly the installation team, who were thorough and efficient. They provided the best price for the air conditioner that I couldn't find elsewhere.
While this specific service was impressive, my experience with other appliances, like my dishwasher, has been mixed. Initially, I sought repairs for a dishwasher issue but was told later that it wasn't covered. This led me to question the value of the coverage for certain household appliances because, oftentimes, it seemed more cost-effective to buy new ones than resort to the insurance.
If asked by a friend, I would advise considering American Home Shield primarily for larger appliances like air conditioners, where their prices and service truly excel. For smaller appliances, however, direct replacement might be more practical.
Overall, the air conditioning service deserves high praise, but as my appliance needs are currently met with newer purchases, I might not renew the insurance after it's up. It's great if you want competitive pricing for air conditioners. In other cases, buying new could be smarter, considering the uncertainties about coverage for repairs.
Thank you for taking the time to give us a review so that we can better serve our customers.
I apologize AHS did not meet your expectations on the dishwasher; however, I did take a look at that work order, and saw there was an issue, with some wires cut, chewed, or otherwise damaged, that was not normal wear and tear. I am so sorry. AHS covers normal wear and tear issues of covered items.
I am so glad you were pleased with the HVAC coverage.
Thank you so much.

I had numerous issues with my AC unit and despite having two different companies sent by American Home Shield, nothing was resolved properly.
The first company, Heat and Cool Care, tried to charge me for Freon without even testing the unit, and their diagnosis left much to be desired. The technician claimed to have fixed the issue without verifying it, and later insisted that unnecessary additions like a P-trap, which isn’t even code for my system, were needed.
The second opinion was no better. It was just as fruitless and I was quoted an astronomical $1,485 for repairs that the new contractor I eventually hired charged $725, including genuine requirements like the rusted drain pan and a safety switch.
American Home Shield's handling was frustrating as it didn’t improve matters initially; they sided with the contractors and ignored pressing issues unless I escalated to the executive team. It became apparent to me that contractors they work with typically have poor ratings, underpinned by the fact that skilled companies aren’t being accepted into their network.
This experience isn’t unique unfortunately. When dealing with other appliance repairs, the process would often involve several visits without resolution until I reached out to their executive branch. This should be addressed as most clients likely don’t have the means or knowledge to insist on proper service in this way.
To conclude, while eventually I do manage to get issues sorted, the unnecessary hoops and costs endured along the way diminish the overall effectiveness of their service. Should American Home Shield consider employing contractors with higher qualifications, perhaps the workflow would get smoother and more efficient for their clientele. My overall sentiment concerning them is quite dissatisfied, maintaining that significant change is needed, especially from their customer service side.
Hello Steven. Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for the problems that you encountered with your recent service request.

I paid for three years and had a claim on a toilet that broke (ceramic). It needed to be replaced. AHS denied the claim under clause "7K.... Breakdowns that occur due to abuse, misuse, hacking, or vandalism." AHS said 'cracks are not normal wear and tear as it is made solid' and by sitting (my 160 lb son) my 22 year old cheap toilet that qualified as 'misuse' and is therefore my claim is denied. How is sitting on a toilet 'misuse?' I asked the supervisor what the expected age life of a toilet is, he did not have an answer, only that they shouldn't ever fail. The plumber said they deny 99% of toilet claims.
AHS website said there was 'a detailed diagnostic report' for me to review but there was not one for me to read. I asked them to email it to me, they refused. Repair decisions over ~$200-250 are made by the AHS department not the contractor. Clause 7k appears to be a catch-all for them to deny any claim since it is subjective. My understanding is that in California the burden of proof is on the company not the consumer. My only recourse is to take them to arbitration, file a claim with the State of CA and BBB, and to warn others on social media. AHS has one of the lowest ratings on this website; I only wish I had seen this list before I signed up.
Hello Brian. Thank you for your review. I was able to locate your service request and review it.
According to the initial diagnosis of the first technician that we assigned, the failure of the unit occurred due to reasons other than normal wear and tear. At your request, we did dispatch a second vendor who also made the independent assessment that the unit failed due to causes other than normal wear and tear.
Please understand that not every system failure will be for a covered cause. Our contracts detail what will and will not be covered. We do request that our technicians provide detailed documentation to verify assessments that result in a denial of coverage.
As for the rating that AHS has on the BBB website, we are currently rated a "B." That is far from being one of the lowest ratings on this website. We respond to and review our customers feedback because we strive to provide excellent service.

My experience began by reaching out to American Home Shield over an issue with my AC. Prior to contacting them, a friend who knew an AC technician did a courtesy check and pointed out that there might be an issue with the blower motor. After informing American Home Shield of the situation, they promptly set up an appointment. What stood out was that the technician who initially assessed the issue was the same one who returned to replace the blower motor. It was seamless—no re-explanation needed, just a straightforward repair.
An aspect worth mentioning is the quality of customer service. Despite a minor language barrier with the representative I spoke to, she made a commendable effort to communicate clearly. In terms of costs, I paid a one-time fee of $125 when the problem was addressed, but haven't had enough experiences to judge consistency across various repair needs. Generally, I found their service commendable and would recommend them, contingent on future encounters reaffirming this initial positive experience.
We sincerely appreciate your continued loyalty to us. Your feedback is invaluable, and we are grateful for the time you took to share your experience. It is through your insights that we can continue to improve and provide the best possible service.

I had some issues in the house that we had to keep replacing stuff, so we ended up going through with American Home Shield. We've had it for a few years. My experience with their claim process was straightforward—utilizing their app to submit claims was easy and intuitive. When my air conditioner's capacitor malfunctioned, the contractor from All South Air System LLC swiftly replaced it the same day they visited. One downside, however, is the delay in finding contractors for certain services like electrical work. It took a while to get an electrician due to a lack of contracts in my area, leading to a slower service response.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with American Home Shield. We’re pleased that the claims process and the prompt service for your air conditioner's repair met your expectations. We understand how inconvenient delays can be, especially in locating contractors for certain services. We are always striving to improve our contractor network and service delivery times. If there’s anything more we can assist you with or improve upon, please feel free to reach out to us.

Mr. ** did reach out and my dryer has been replaced. We do love AHS. They have helped us so much over the year. Sears however should be put completely out of business. The company is a joke and I have not a single good thing to say about them. They lie and I’m convinced not a single member of that company can fix an appliance.
Original Review: July 11, 2025
We loved American Home Shield until they assigned Sears to fix our dryer. I put in a request for a broken dryer and they assigned Sears to fix it. Sears first cancelled, then no showed, then finally came we were so excited but they had to order parts, 2 weeks later they showed back up and said they ordered the wrong parts. The tech said he was stepping outside and drove off in the middle of appt. I received a text saying they had to research and see if the parts still existed. I’ve called and called AHS repetitively and all they say is well sears is assigned we have to ride it out pretty much. Now here we are with an appt for sears 2 months from initial request no dryer and praying the parts they just ordered works. I guess we will see in two more weeks. AHS should not let a company just fool around this long. Someone should have done something else by now but here we are.
Hello Hannah. Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for the delays you have experienced with this appliance request.

I've been with AHS for an impressive 30 years. My recent experience involved having my pool pump malfunction, which led to a claim. The process was simple, as I called and directly spoke with a claims agent. The interaction was fine, as expected. The service tech from Green 2 Crystal Clear Pools was satisfactory—they diagnosed loose wires but later replaced a part due to a recurring issue.
I'll receive an update tomorrow from my weekly pool maintenance company, who will hopefully confirm that everything is functioning correctly. On the whole, I find American Home Shield convenient and easy to work with.

The service has been very helpful as things do break down often and can be expensive to repair. My most recent experience was with a refrigerator repair, where initially both the fridge and freezer stopped working properly. I had to file a claim, and Blue Collar Appliance and Repair came out for the fix. Unfortunately, it didn’t work after about a week and a half, so I had to file another claim. They came out again, and I’m hoping all is well now because it's currently working great.
Filing a claim with American Home Shield was quite straightforward. You just select what's wrong and provide some details, then pay a fee, and they arrange for a service provider to contact you. The latest contractor, Blue Collar, was really good compared to others I've dealt with. Customer service has usually been quick to respond, although the long repair duration, especially for essential appliances like the refrigerator, can be quite inconvenient. It broke in May and was only fully resolved like a couple of weeks ago.
If a friend asked about it, I'd note that while they respond promptly, the service gets pricier each year, and the monthly cost tends to rise. That said, the service fees per call are reasonable. It's a trade-off with the understanding that ensuring prolonged service may become prohibitively expensive. Overall, I would rate the experience highly, though with the caveat about rising prices and potentially long wait times for parts and repairs.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re delighted to know that American Home Shield has been helpful with the home repairs you’ve encountered over the years. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay with the refrigerator repair and assure you that we are continuously working to improve our service efficiency.
