I’ve been extremely happy with American Home Shield. Their customer service has been very good to me. I had three appliances I had issues with, the dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator. My dishwasher didn’t work for three weeks, and the guy said it needed to be replaced. With the microwave, it was making a very loud noise when I turned it on. He said something was going on it. The refrigerator, the line was frozen in the back of it and it rusted the entire back of the refrigerator. He said it couldn’t be replaced. American Home Shield is replacing it. They were wonderful, and I've had no issues with them at all.
Sincerely,
Mariah

Recently, we had an issue with a switch on our furnace. We contacted AHS, and it took a couple of days for a company to come out because it was during a snowstorm. When they did come out, they fixed it right away. We’ve been good since.
The last time I had something, they couldn’t find anybody in the area to fix it. I thought that was strange since I’m in Hampton Roads, the most heavily populated area in Virginia. I had to find my own person, pay them out of my pocket, and had AHS pay me back. That was a little bit inconvenient. I did get paid for it, so I can’t really complain.
Sincerely,
Mariah

Our garage door wasn’t opening. The tech who came out for that was really nice and adjusted the pressure on it. We had him do some other things too, some maintenance on it that needed to be done. That wasn’t covered, but he did that. We paid him for that. We’re happy with American Home Shield.
Joanna, thanks so much for taking the time to reach out and share your experience! I'm pleased to see that our team was able to get your garage door repaired so quickly.
We look forward to the next opportunity that we'll have to assist you.

I requested American Home Shield to send someone out because my oven door was broken. The contractor came, and he ended up ordering a replacement for the oven door because the glass part was broken. Then, he came back and installed it. He was great and very friendly. He was able to answer all my questions, and gave me advice on future use of the oven. The whole claim process took about two weeks.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield!

I had a leak around my pipe in my shower, and the contractor fixed that. But we’ve been wondering why the water’s been leaking down my bathroom wall. Then my grandson discovered last night that right around the head of the shower, there’s a seal that’s broken or came loose, and water leaks out of there. I haven’t contacted American Home Shield yet about that.
I have had AHS for a very long time. Whenever I call them, they usually come out and take care of what needs to be done.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield!

Our refrigerator’s ice maker stopped working. When the contractor came out to look at it, they saw where it had a Freon leak on the backside and then replaced the refrigerator. The overall process took less than a week. The technicians have always been top-notch, especially these last guys.
I have been with American Home Shield for almost 24 years. They’ve been terrific. We’ve used them through the years. We’ve had hot water heaters replaced, gotten a new furnace, replaced the guts in our hot tub at our last house, replaced the central vacuum, and I’m sure there’s more. I like that I have peace of mind.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield!

My most recent claim was a garbage disposal at a rental that I owned. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was fine. I did it online, but garbage disposal was not one of the options, oddly.
The contractor was good, with the exception that the thing was clearly dead. The technician had to come out and inconvenience my full-time working tenant for the first visit. Then it was deemed that it had to be replaced and a second visit had to be scheduled, which is very inconvenient for clients. But the new one has been working.
We hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the coverage we provide!

I ordered a service on the furnace. American Home Shield sent a company out of my area, but closer to me who went out there and did not tell us exactly what needed to be done. But American Home Shield denied the claim. Nobody called to communicate. So I called American Home Shield and they kept telling me I needed to call the people. I couldn’t get the original people. They sent Guaranteed out here to service. They couldn't service. Then you went back and hired this company closer to my house who took the money, never could get in touch with them to come and do the work. They then stood in front of my sister’s face and did not tell us about the fence, because the fence was not a problem. But American Home Shield just automatically denied the claim.
I had to fight, cuss, call, and cuss to get somebody to get me somebody out there to fix that furnace. Then when Guaranteed finally got back out there, the house was filling up with the poison that came from the gas. My sister has medical issues and she was in a cold house. American Home Shield kept putting me through and telling me somebody was gonna call me, but they got my money. I had to tell them that I was gonna sue them for every penny I paid them so I could get my furnace fixed.
Guaranteed Services came to my rescue when American Home Shield finally agreed and took care of the furnace. We got a brand-new furnace. But American Home Shield's customer service people were lousy. They didn't hear my needs, but they took my money. Matter of fact, they kept calling me trying to tell me I ain’t paying my bill and you were drafting my account.
American Home Shield needs to be a little bit more compassionate, especially during the wintertime. Their system needs to have an elevation when it's an emergency. With my sister having an illness, they should have taken consideration and not waited another three weeks, and I had to keep calling back. Somebody should have been reaching out. Somebody should have said, “You know what? We see this needs to be elevated, not the normal elevation.” But they didn't do that. They made me wait trying to reach somebody who they couldn't even reach themselves, and kept telling me, “Well, you want to try to reach out.” I told them, “For what? I didn't hire them. Why you didn't send the people you sent the first time?”
American Home Shield sent Guaranteed Service to service the furnace, but then they got this man to fix it, and that was the problem. Then Guaranteed Service had to come back. But they were so nice. They tried to work over their time to get my sister some heat once they came back, and they’re the ones who deserve all the praise. They tried to flip it and rush American Home Shield to get that furnace for them so they could get it done for my sister. I got two houses I got under American Home Shield. So they need to hear from me because they're getting my money. They’re getting over $100 a month.

I was without hot water during one of the coldest winters in years for almost 2 weeks due to my hot water heater failure and American Home Shield failure to reassign my project to another contractor who could have repaired the hot water heater faster. On Sunday, February 9th, my hot water heater stopped working. I contacted American Home Shield to file a claim. The project was assigned to a contractor.
The tech arrived on Wednesday, February 12th, to diagnose the problem. The tech determined that a replacement part was needed and the part was ordered on the 12th. I was informed that delivery of the part could take up to 7 days. And it did. When AHS was informed of the time frame to receive the part, it should have reassigned the project. My family and I ended up renting a hotel room for 2 days. The part was finally delivered on February 20th and the repair was made on the same day. Very unhappy. Searching for my next Home Warranty plan.

American Home Shield scheduled the appointment with Winston Doors and when they came out, the tech asked if I could unlock my third car garage. I told him it had a lock on it and we had a bunch of baseboards that were sitting in front of it so it'd be easier if we go through my house. I took him in there and he walked into the garage and said I had a one-spring garage door system and it was out of code. I said that was how it was when we bought our home and it passed inspections then. He said that wasn't gonna work.
They were supposed to be here between 11:00 and 4:00 and I had an appointment that day. I told him we had somewhere to go. I asked if he'd be able to fix the garage door and he said he didn't know and that we were gonna have to see what they say. He talked to my husband for a minute and he was going on and on about how our garage door was out of code. He said it was supposed to be a new spring system.
We didn't hear anything and I tried calling Winston Doors to see when the spring would be in and if they'd be able to fix it. But they couldn't tell me anything and I had to call like 500 times just to get someone to answer the phone. I called AHS and they said they had not gotten the paperwork to see what needed to be done. Mysteriously, in the next hour, I saw on my online account with American Home Shield that the authorization had been approved and next thing I knew, I received a text message that I had an appointment on a certain day from 11:00 to 4:00.
My husband was at home and was waiting all day but 4:00 rolled around and nobody had shown up. I looked on American Home Shield and pulled up the text message. My appointment had been changed to 12:00 to 6:00. No one called me to change the appointment. I was just supposed to miraculously know this without being notified. We waited and no one came. I called Winston Doors and asked when the tech would be here and the rep said they didn't have me on their schedule. My husband called AHS and they said no one ever confirmed the appointment. But the text message didn't say I needed to text them to confirm.
No one from American Home Shield ever contacted Winston Doors, from what I was told, that I had an appointment. Then, they told me they couldn't make an appointment for a week and a half. I told them I had already been waiting. I waited a week for my original appointment and a week and a half for them to supposedly order the spring. I was not waiting another week and a half because they couldn't communicate and come to my home to fix my garage door. They said someone could be here the next day from 9:00 to 3:00 but I said I was not gonna wait at home for six hours again. After a long time waiting on hold -- and we were on the phone for over an hour and a half -- they said that they would come at 3:00.
My husband and kids were home and the tech showed up at 5:00. I took him to the garage and he asked if I could open another door. I again told this guy that it was locked. There were boards and I preferred not to unlock it. I told him I thought they were coming at 3:00 and he said they don't give specific times. I was trying to tell him what had happened but he just kept cutting me off and told me he was in a hurry. Then, he said he didn't think he could fix my garage door because it's a one-spring system. I told him he should have that on his truck. He was here to fix it. He said he didn't know if it got loaded. I told him I had already been dealing with this for more than two weeks and he was being rude. I told him he could talk with my husband. My husband came out there and he told him that he was in a hurry because he had to get to his next appointment before it got dark. That doesn't mean to be rude to me because you're late and it gets dark in 30 minutes. But he had the spring and he put it on.
But he didn't make my door, so it closed all the way and I had a gap in my garage door. We had to call Winston Doors again like 10 times to get them to answer the phone. They finally answered and the rep said they can't get back out here for a week and a half. I told them they fixed my door improperly and they agreed to come out within two days and the tech adjusted the door.
My husband called American Home Shield and told them it was poor customer service. That was the second time. The last time we had someone come fix our stove, we also had a similar situation. American Home Shield is using companies that are really rude. They don't have good customer service, it takes forever for them to come out here, and they don't submit the paperwork to AHS in a timely manner. We're just waiting forever and that's crazy. My husband spent I don't know how long getting transferred from person to person to person to get someone to hear our complaints about the situation and we're supposed to be getting back the fee that we paid to get the garage door repaired.

I’ve had a horrible experience with American Home Shield. I couldn’t understand the people I spoke to. Today was the first time I spoke to someone I could understand. The last several times I’ve called, it was very difficult to communicate. It’s not about racism, it’s frustrating. If they have a call center for U.S. members, it’s important to make sure they can actually understand people they’re talking to.
Second, I’ve had to call multiple times for the same issue. I reported a problem with my dishwasher, and each time they said it was fixed, but it wasn’t. Since December, I’ve called three times. The last repair was on February 12th, but it still didn’t work. They’re coming again tomorrow.
Another issue I’m having is with my bathroom. I have a broken faucet in a double sink in a house appraised at $1.3 million. I requested a repair, but I was told they would only install a builder-grade faucet around $60 to replace a set that originally cost $300. They said they only cover builder-grade items, regardless of the value of what’s being replaced.
It’s been very disappointing. You can’t replace a $1,000 piece of equipment with a $100 builder-grade item in a custom home appraised at $1.3 million. I’ll never put builder-grade things in my home. When I tried to discuss this, the representatives were hard to understand, rude, and unwilling to address my concerns.
When I purchased my warranty, I was very impressed with the sales, marketing, and service. Over the past year, things have taken a downhill turn. I’m in a battle with AHS right now. I have to pay $400 out of pocket even though I already have a warranty, because they won’t cover what my home deserves. After paying for American Home Shield for about 14 years, it feels pointless to have insurance on my appliance when it’s not being properly covered.

I had my freezer go out, and I called someone else to work on it. They got it where it was getting cold, but it wasn’t freezing. So I called American Home Shield. They sent someone out that said the issue was the compressor. Then they sent someone else out that said it was not the compressor. But they finally found out what it was, and it needed freon. They got it fixed, and it’s been working fine.
The first contractor was nice and pleasant. He gave me his name. It was wonderful. The second one came three times, but I didn’t know his name until the last day. He wasn't very talkative, but he did his job. The only thing I didn’t like was him speaking negatively about the first contractor, and I just don’t believe in bad-mouthing people.
My only complaint was that it took so long for my freezer to get fixed. It was about three weeks because they had to order the part, so it wasn’t anything like they were trying to take a long time. It just ended up being a longer time.
But other than that, it was a great experience. I’ve told different people about AHS, and they're going to check it out. Everybody was very good. They were courteous and polite. There's no cussing and smoking. Sometimes some come in, and I can smell the cigarettes. But there was nothing like that the last time.
When I signed up, I did it online. I put my phone number and sent it. When I was filling out the other part, the phone rang. The lady called about it, and she was very kind. She even gave me a discount, less than the price of what I would have gotten if I had just continued online by myself. That was really great.
The price is wonderful. There’s so much I’ve had to replace. It’s great because we had AHS for a short time, and I’ve already had to use it. I am very pleased with the price, service, and the fact that everything they told me when I was getting this service was the truth. They followed through on what they told me they would do if any of my products broke down.
Sincerely,
Mariah

The most recent claim was to fix the oven door that was locked. The first vendor that came out could not get the door open. They had to look for another vendor. It was a GE special vendor. They declined to work on wall ovens. Then, the third vendor, PJ Appliances, came out and fixed the problem.
The initial experience was good. But after they couldn't fix it and I asked them to expedite the next vendor, it took a week for the next vendor to come on board, only to have the next vendor say he couldn't fix it. They didn't expedite the third vendor. So it was about four days for that vendor to get on board. I was not satisfied with the delay. I was without my oven for about three weeks.
The technicians who came out were good. The PJ appliance technician was great. We had a good conversation. They went right to the product and knew what they had to do. They had to call in the supervisor because of the way the door latched. They had to order a part, and they came back two days later with the part and fixed the oven.
The only thing I'm concerned about is when you have an incident that the vendor does not service, the next step should be to expedite it to make sure somebody gets out there in a timely manner. You don't have to wait another week.
Overall American Home Shield has been great. Most of the time, I start my claims through the website and it's been very good. Their customer service is responsive. However their coverage is getting a little pricey. I've been with them for about 15 years and they're about to reach that peak mark where the cost of the plan may not offset just going straight to a vendor.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield!

Mariah

American Home Shield sent Plumbing Buddy to fix my toilet, which wasn't flushing correctly. The technician managed to fix the issue, and I've only encountered the problem once since then, so I haven't felt the need to call them again yet. I have been using American Home Shield for nearly two years and the claims process has generally been good, although I am not happy with the price increase from $100 to $125. One significant issue I have is with the warranty period for repairs. My washer had a spinning problem that was addressed three months ago, and now the same issue has occurred. I believe the warranty should last longer than three months because having to pay $125 again for the same problem feels unfair. Originally, when you purchase an appliance, the expectation is for the warranty to cover a longer period.

I have been using American Home Shield for about 11 years now as part of my home warranty service. Recently, I had a plumbing issue that needed fixing—a leak in the garbage disposal and faucet. Unfortunately, I had to pay an additional service fee to Pronto Plumbing, a company sent by American Home Shield, even though it was to correct a mistake made by the first company they used.
Most of the time, my needs have been addressed by American Home Shield, but I have had some issues. I wasn't happy with the garbage disposal and also had a dishwasher repair in the past. The technicians provided weren't great, and the replacement garbage disposal and faucet weren't as good as the original models. While I appreciate the security of having a home warranty, the quality of these replacements has been disappointing, considering it is a service I use only about once a year.
Overall, I would rate my experience with American Home Shield as a 3 out of 5. While I'm generally satisfied with them, I'm not particularly thrilled with the quality of the products or the usefulness considering the cost. The customer service, however, deserves a 5 as they've been polite and effective. The pricing and the online service experience are decent for the most part.

Submitting the claim for my dishwasher that broke was smoother than in past experiences. I had some issues before and I was in the verge of canceling the policy because it took a while for them to respond. But this time, American Home Shield responded quickly, and within three weeks, they had someone come to fix the dishwasher. The contractor who came was courteous and efficiently completed the repair. When I mentioned a related issue upstairs, he took care of that as well without any hassle.
However, I encountered a significant issue when it came to replacing my boiler. The compensation value American Home Shield offered was much lower than the actual cost. They provided only $1,000 for a boiler replacement, whereas purchasing a new one cost around $5,000. This meant I had to pay an additional $6,000 out of pocket. It seems the values they assign to certain items are much lower than their market cost, leading to increased expenses for consumers like me.
While I would still recommend them for certain repairs, the experience highlighted that sometimes their financial support falls short of actual replacements. Overall, I would give American Home Shield a rating of 2 out of 5. Their customer service often seemed unsupportive when help was needed, which affects the overall experience.
The marketing and pricing seemed reasonable—I'd rate them a 4 each for the pushy but effective sales approach and the fairness of the product's price. The online tool was effective, so I'd give it a 4. I once attempted to disconnect my service due to these issues, but the process was cumbersome, leading me to continue despite my reservations.

I have been using American Home Shield for a number of years, ever since I purchased my home. Initially, I found their service quite beneficial. I've had a variety of appliances serviced, like my air conditioner, washer, and refrigerator, with only a minimal service call fee, which used to be $75 but has recently increased to $100. I've had some dealings with them that were awesome. But there were others where I still had to pay a portion. When I got my water heater replaced, I still had to pay out-of-pocket.
I typically make service requests online, which is straightforward. However, the interaction is predominantly impersonal, making it feel more transactional. One downside I’ve experienced is the lack of transparency regarding coverage. For instance, I was surprised to find out that my upright freezer wasn’t covered because it wasn't a refrigerator/freezer combo. This information emerged only after the technician’s visit, resulting in some unnecessary charges and inconvenience.
My dealings with their customer service have been mixed. Some representatives seem uninformed on coverage details and often need to consult supervisors for simple queries, which can be frustrating. The overall customer service experience would rate a 2 out of 5 due to these issues.
Despite these occurrences, I still find the service to be reasonably priced for what’s covered. The website itself is easy to navigate, mainly focusing on service requests, which is quite user-friendly and would also rate a 4 out of 5.
Overall, American Home Shield has provided a decent service, although the quality seems to have fluctuated over the years. I'd give my overall experience a 3 out of 5 as their initial service was excellent, but recent interactions have been less satisfactory.

I had a claim with American Home Shield regarding a pool heater that was not working correctly. When the contractors came to inspect it, they denied my claim. They said it was a commercial heater, which puzzled me since this heater has been a part of my pool since I bought the house in 2009. Consequently, I've been left to handle the repair out of pocket since the company refuses to cover it.
I've been with American Home Shield for about ten years. My previous experiences were satisfactory. They've replaced several items in my house, like an oven, washing machine, and a tankless water heater without any issue. The technician they sent for the heater seemed knowledgeable, identifying the problem as a possible issue with a relay and commenting on the age of the unit. However, they never followed up after informing me that they wouldn't cover the repair.
I am disappointed with the lack of direct contact with their customer service. It's frustrating not being able to speak to someone directly or having a proper channel to dispute the claim. Despite my past satisfaction, this experience has left me very dissatisfied with American Home Shield.
Dear Glenn,
I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologize for the difficulties you've been experiencing and would like to discuss this more. Feel free to contact me at consumeraffairs@ahs.com.

I've had American Home Shield for about 9 to 10 years, ever since I moved into my house. My experience with them has been mostly positive. Recently, they sent someone out for plumbing issues with my sink, garbage disposal, and sprayer. The contractor was excellent and did all that was expected of him. Typically, the claim process takes only a few days, though at times, I've had to wait for parts.
There was a negative experience last year when communication was poor. My hot water tank was leaking during the summer, and I had to go to the gym for showers. The company frequently changed their appointment times, which was incredibly frustrating as I had to take time off work. They once tried to schedule a repair late at night, which I declined because I live alone with my daughter. It would have been easier if they just informed me about delays.
Apart from that incident, the vendors they usually send out are good. I prefer to use those who are familiar with my home, like those who originally installed my systems. Even though I've had some pricing disputes with American Home Shield in the past, I believe they are one of the best companies, which is why I continue to use them. Overall, I would rate my experience as a 4 out of 5.
We appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

May Heating & Air came out for my furnace that wasn't heating properly, leaving my house quite chilly. I found the claims submission process much easier this time than in the past.
The technician from May Heating seemed more knowledgeable than previous ones. I’ve had issues with technicians not being able to fit into tight spaces like under the house or in the attic, but this guy was more competent. However, there was an issue with the unit's power supply, which led to a frustrating back-and-forth between the HVAC and electrical guys. They wouldn't address the electrical issue, which left me stuck. Eventually, they just added some freon, claiming it would fix the heating, though I remembered being told before that repeatedly adding freon signified a leak.
Rating American Home Shield, I'd say a 3 or 4 out of 5. They've improved over time, but they're still not as exceptional as my experience with Old Republic. What I appreciate about American Home Shield is the ease of making claims online. However, sometimes there are language barriers when calling customer service, which can be challenging.
If I were to recommend American Home Shield to friends or family, I'd say they're not bad. They offer competitive deals and are one of the companies I'd suggest, alongside Old Republic.
Overall, while the renewal rate increased, which they explained was due to rising costs, I decided to give them another chance. Though I hope costs stabilize, I'm optimistic about the service standard improving.
Dear Karen,
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

American Home Shield handled a plumbing issue for me. Initially, the process had its ups and downs, especially in terms of the contractor lineup. It felt like they don't always choose the top-rated contractors, but instead, those who are more familiar with the fine print, which can lead to initial job rejections.
The first contractor they sent claimed that parts were missing and couldn't complete the job, which I found inaccurate. Fortunately, after I refused to pay more, they sent a second contractor who managed to fix everything that the first one couldn't. That resolved the issue, and the appliance has been working fine since the repair.
While I appreciate having this kind of insurance because it's tough finding reliable contractors across the US, there were pricing concerns. Even though they advertise plans in the range of $45-$50, my plan has unexpectedly increased to over $80. I might have to cancel and re-sign to get a better rate. While it involves a 30-day waiting period, I can wait 30 days to get the lower price.
Overall, I'd say the service is decent and cost-effective compared to other limited options, and I would recommend it. However, their approach to pricing and contractor selection could use some improvement.
Hello Muhammad, and thank you for the review. I apologize for the issues you encountered with the first contractor who was assigned. I'm glad that our next vendor was able to resolve the situation.
I do understand your concerns regarding pricing; in this current inflationary period, cost-efficiency is on most of our minds. AHS is working to maintain the lowest possible cost to our homeowners for even the most expensive repairs. We appreciate your business, and this is one of the ways that we show that.
I hope that you will continue to make use of our warranty in the future.

I had an unsatisfactory experience with American Home Shield. After remodeling my kitchen a few years ago, I encountered a leak under the sink, which caused damage to my floor and cabinets. Despite having a policy with American Home Shield, the service process was frustrating and inadequate.
When I submitted a claim online, it cost me $125, with the expectation that a plumber would address the issues. However, scheduling the appointment took almost three weeks due to rescheduling, and communication with the plumber was lacking. Once the plumber finally visited, the service cost unexpectedly amounted to nearly $500 for issues that American Home Shield wouldn't cover, citing improper installation during my initial remodel.
Despite requesting email communication about a possible payout, as of yet, I haven't received any follow-up. While their online tools and customer service were satisfactory, I am disappointed with the coverage provided and ultimately plan to cancel my policy. Overall, I found the coverage to be unsatisfactory, even though I had initially signed up based on positive recommendations from friends.

I had a clogged sink stopper that needed fixing. Whenever I've tried using American Home Shield's online system, it fails and directs me through unnecessarily complicated steps. So, I've had to resort to calling their customer service. Though I would prefer not to, the representatives I've interacted with are usually pretty good. They note down the issue and within the stated timeframe, I can expect a call to schedule an appointment. A1 Plumbing came out as planned, and I have had no issues since. However, I am expecting another service visit soon for a different appliance - my dishwasher.
I'd rate my experience with A1 Plumbing and American Home Shield as a 4 out of 5. Their customer service is courteous and gets the job done. For the costs associated with their service, I'd also give them a 4 out of 5. My biggest gripe is with their website - it doesn't function for me. Even after inputting my contract number and following all required steps, it still doesn't allow me to book service. Due to this ongoing issue, I would rate their online platform a 2 out of 5.

I needed to make a claim with American Home Shield for my hot water heater. The control valve was not working, and after a few days, a contractor was sent. He mentioned needing to order a part but since then, I haven't received any updates on the status of this order. This lack of communication has been a bit frustrating.
My past experiences with American Home Shield have been mixed. The first time I needed service was for my refrigerator, which took about three weeks to repair. Unfortunately, it only lasted a month before I had to contact them again and pay once more. The second repair was faster, taking about 10 days, and the refrigerator is now functioning properly.
When it comes to their customer service, it typically starts well but lacks follow-through, primarily due to the vendors. If I were to rate my customer service experience, I'd give it a 4 out of 5. As for the overall coverage and product, I would give it a 5. The website is user-friendly and navigable, and I rate it a 5 as well.
My decision to go with American Home Shield was influenced by my realtor during the purchase of my new home. As for the price, I feel it's fair. Overall, while American Home Shield is a fine company, they could benefit from ensuring their vendors are efficient and reliable.

I recently had an experience where American Home Shield arranged for Twin City Appliance to check out our fridge, which wasn't cooling properly. The technician initially thought it might need a Freon reload, but since Twin City didn't handle that, they transferred us to another company. This new company discovered that no Freon was needed. the issue was just a buildup of dust and dirt inside the refrigerator. Once cleared, our fridge started cooling immediately, and we haven't had any issues since.
I generally set up requests through American Home Shield online. They responded quickly Even though it was on a weekend. Twin City called me on a Sunday and asked if it was OK to come out Monday morning.
I've been with American Home Shield for about a year and have been very satisfied with their service. I would definitely recommend them to friends or family considering a warranty and tell them it's a good idea. Their pricing is reasonable. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been excellent.

My experience with American Home Shield has been a mixed bag. Recently, we had a leak in our washing machine, and they were able to send a contractor in a timely fashion to replace a pump and a hose. We live in a rural area, so finding a contractor quickly was a pleasant surprise, and they did a very good job once they arrived.
However, the process of submitting a claim is frustrating. The customer service representatives are difficult to understand, possibly due to reading from scripts and being from another country, which happens every time I call. It often takes too long to find a contractor as well. Despite these challenges, my past interactions with the technicians have been positive – they are competent and perform the necessary repairs.
While the coverage provided by American Home Shield is satisfactory, at times it feels overpriced for the service level. The online tools have not impressed me either. Overall, the technicians are reliable once they are assigned, but the initial steps to get service leave much to be desired. We plan to terminate our contract within a month as we are preparing to move.

Having this coverage has been especially important because my husband used to handle all our repairs, but due to his illness, he's unable to do so now. I recently had Elite Electric Solutions come out through American Home Shield because there was an issue with the electrical system; a line was off. They resolved it quickly within five minutes, and since then, everything has been working fine. I initially set up the service online with American Home Shield. I found the process efficient, as they were prompt with the service. However, I had questions about potential charges if I needed service for different issues at the same time, like kitchen versus electrical problems, but it seems they charge once per claim, which I found satisfactory.
My overall experience with American Home Shield has been positive, though the first time I needed them for an air conditioning issue, it was rather challenging. It took three attempts from the mechanic to fix it, leaving the air conditioning system off for 2 days, which was inconvenient. Because of this, I'd rate the air conditioning service as three stars. On the other hand, the electrical issue was resolved promptly, and I'd give it five stars for that. In general, I'm satisfied with the service, especially since they handle things on time, and I would recommend them to a friend.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for roughly three to four years. Recently, I placed a claim due to a slight leak beneath my bathroom faucet's valve, which required attention. The service technician sent out by American Home Shield only managed to replace the valve and handle to address the leak but did not change the faucet as needed. The technician cited water pressure from the street as a reason, which I found confusing, since other faucets in my home do not have this issue. I've used the existing faucet for months by manually turning the hot water valve on and off, likely leading to this leak.
Disappointingly, they refused to replace the faucet despite it being covered in the contract. My dissatisfaction extended to the technician leaving a bag of trash in my driveway, which was unrelated to my job, and there was no follow-up after I reported his rude behavior. Though I requested a different contractor to address the incomplete job, no one else was sent. On one occasion, they had to send another technician to finish the plumbing work previously attempted by someone else. Given these experiences, if improvements aren't made soon, I may consider another company. The cost of the service, which is about $1,200 a year plus $100 per call, warrants reliable service and attentive follow-ups.

My recent experience with American Home Shield has been frustrating and unsatisfactory. I filed a claim for a double oven replacement, and despite following the necessary procedures, I'm currently in a disagreement with the company over the reimbursement amount. I found their customer service lacking, as they hung up on me multiple times when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the compensation offered, which is not enough to replace the appliance.
Submitting the claim wasn't straightforward. They initially sent a contractor to assess the situation, but I had to request a second opinion, as I frequently do, due to their initial reluctance to cover replacement costs. This incurs an additional $125 for each assessment. Although the contractors acted professionally, the final resolution wasn't favorable to me. The company deducted $703 to cover the service calls, making it impossible for me to replace the appliance with the cash received. American Home Shield's customer service needs significant improvement. Hanging up on customers who challenge their decisions is unprofessional. I'm paying them monthly for reliability in times of need, yet they seem to evade their responsibilities.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield on and off for nearly 20 years. My experiences have varied over the years. Recently, I had an issue with Chesapeake Appliance and Repair. They were supposed to order parts for my microwave and didn't follow through. When they came back, they only installed a light bulb and the issue persisted with noise from the fan. They then asked for another claim for a separate issue, and I was unhappy with the continued deductible charges.
Despite these frustrations, I appreciate the coverage American Home Shield offers. They cover appliances and systems, offering peace of mind with the payment of a deductible. However, the reliability of the contractors they send out is sometimes inconsistent, and the rising monthly fees, which started at $55 and are now over $100 for some policies, are concerning.
The service does offer good coverage when claims are approved, and they often help offset costs for larger replacements, like my heating system. However, there have been occasions where claims are denied over small technicalities, which is frustrating. The customer service is decent, and overall, I would rate American Home Shield a 3 out of 5 for coverage and customer service. The increase in pricing is significant, and I would rate it 2 out of 5.

My experience with American Home Shield has been quite positive. We had an issue with our dishwasher where water was leaking at the bottom. When the technician came, he discovered that the dishwasher was not installed correctly initially, although it was someone else's installation, not by American Home Shield. The dishwasher was unlevel, causing the leak. The technician fixed this during his first visit and also identified that the wrong brackets were used. Though the correct brackets were eventually found, they couldn't be installed as intended. The technician worked diligently to secure the dishwasher with the existing brackets in a way that met our needs. We were very happy with his efforts, although the time it took to get the parts was long enough that he forgot the reason for his return call. Despite this, everything was resolved, and the dishwasher works perfectly now.
Additionally, my husband had a mishap involving the dishwasher, and thankfully, it held up well. We've had to utilize American Home Shield's services for other issues, such as our furnace, which we felt might have shortcuts due to the way our townhouse was built. Each time, they've responded promptly, which has been reassuring. Overall, we're satisfied with American Home Shield as they've helped us rectify various issues. Although we are new to using such a service since moving from rural Iowa, the fees seem reasonable because we only had to pay once for an issue like the dishwasher, even if the technician returned. We've filed claims both by calling and online, and both methods have worked well for us.
We're happy with American Home Shield and would feel comfortable rating them positively based on our experiences.

I recently had an issue with my washing machine and contacted American Home Shield for assistance. I usually file my service requests over the phone through an automated system. After I filed the request, it took a couple of days for a contractor to be sent to my home. The contractor was very helpful and knowledgeable and took about half an hour to diagnose the issue. Unfortunately, they couldn't fix it on the first visit, and we had to get the machine replaced.
American Home Shield provided us with a list of replacement options, and we could choose the one we wanted. Depending on our choice, we could contribute additional money towards the new machine. The replacement was supposed to arrive on a Wednesday but eventually came on a Friday, so it took about a week in total. The new washing machine has been perfect since it arrived, and I've had no more issues with it. While they were helpful, I find the service expensive. When WarHold Mechanicals LLC arrived, they assessed the situation, explained the issue, and began working. They determined the necessary parts needed to be ordered, which took about 3-4 days to arrive. Once the parts were in, they returned and completed the repair. Currently, everything is operating smoothly, although I'm in need of a new thermostat, which is unrelated to the initial issue.
I've been with American Home Shield for over two years, thanks to recommendations from my brother and real estate agent. I'm very satisfied with the service. I recently had a frustrating experience with American Home Shield and their contractor, Patio Pools. The ongoing issue began when there was a problem with the pool filter. Patio Pools came out and diagnosed the issue, but after supposedly making repairs, a leak appeared. Despite my concerns, they insisted it was a coincidence.
The situation worsened when we had freezing temperatures, and Patio Pools neglected to secure the leak, risking damage to underground pipes. This oversight was alarming, especially since I'm located in a high desert area that can get quite cold.
Throughout this ordeal, American Home Shield has been supportive by ensuring I only pay the deductible. However, Patio Pools sent me invoices totaling around $2,900, which I was not responsible for due to the coverage. It’s concerning because I believe there might be others who have wrongly paid these invoices, suggesting a potential pattern of deceptive billing practices.
Patio Pools’ service quality has been lacking. There was still debris entering my pool even after they said the filter was fixed. They took pictures at my request to document the situation, which revealed plastic inside the filter, something my pool maintenance person confirmed should not be there. This raised doubts about Patio Pools’ competence, especially since they are the ones who originally built the pool.
American Home Shield handled my inquiries efficiently and reassured me that they have taken note of the billing issue. They promised to flag Patio Pools in their system, preventing future assignments of this vendor to my property.
This experience has been drawn out since November, characterized by numerous delays and unprofessional behavior from Patio Pools, including missed appointments and a lack of transparency. I was informed that American Home Shield may not use Patio Pools again, and I was advised to recommend a preferred contractor should future issues arise.
Overall, American Home Shield’s support has been commendable, but the challenge lies with Patio Pools’ poor service and potential fraudulent billing practices. I hope American Home Shield investigates this further for the benefit of all their customers.

The claim submission went smoothly; the repair technician contacted American Home Shield, explained the issue, took a photo, and mentioned the claim deduction of $125. The repair was quickly taken care of, and I appreciated the courteous service from the contractor. My units functioned well afterward, except for a thermostat issue due to an unclosed furnace door, which was resolved.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield which left me with mixed feelings. A plumber from Honest Plumber INC, sent by American Home Shield, was quite unprofessional and alarmed my tenant with exaggerated claims about the plumbing and the need for a complete rework. When I expressed my dissatisfaction and requested not to have that technician return, I was told by the company that they might discontinue services at my property, which was quite frustrating.
Despite this, previous claims have generally been handled well. The process of calling in a claim is straightforward, but the response time can be a problem. For instance, when our only bathroom was out of service, they took too long to address the issue, which is quite inconvenient when there's no alternative.
Though I've mostly had good experiences otherwise, this particular incident stands out. I would rate American Home Shield a 3 out of 5 due to the slow emergency response and the issue with the plumber.
Overall, I have recommended American Home Shield to family members, and some have taken up the service. I appreciate having a service that can quickly connect me with contractors since I'm not familiar with local plumbers or handymen myself. However, I also had a case where I had to pay $5,000 out of pocket for a new air conditioning system, while a friend of mine, a fellow recommender, had a similar installation for less, raising questions about pricing.
In terms of customer service, I would rate it a 3 out of 5 because communication can sometimes be difficult. For the price and coverage, I feel it's a mixed bag, warranting a 4 for price. This reflects the fluctuation in cost-sharing based on the service provider they connect with.

As a homeowner with a warranty through American Home Shield, I recently contacted them to address a non-functioning spigot and a toilet issue in my home. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. From the start, customer service was poor, and despite the initial claim being made nearly a month ago, the spigot is still not repaired, and the toilet was fixed incorrectly.
The first plumber they sent was unprofessional; he installed an incorrect water supply line and, when I pointed out the mistake based on my experience in real estate, he responded rudely and left abruptly. This kind of service is simply unacceptable. To make matters worse, this same plumber had issues two years prior with a similar repair, which resulted in the rejection of the claim back then as well.
While the representatives from American Home Shield are polite and apologetic, their apologies come with no resolution. The entire situation has been incredibly frustrating, especially when I consider the cost of $700 annually for their services and the increased service fees. After this experience, I am seriously considering canceling my policy once the current issues are hopefully resolved in another week.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield because my hot water heater was leaking. I used their online system, which was fairly easy to navigate. Before Gateway Plumbing LLC came out, I received a text to schedule the appointment, and that was the extent of the information provided.
When Gateway Plumbing arrived, I found the technicians to be nice, but unfortunately, the hot water heater is still not fixed. I haven't been informed yet whether it will be repaired or replaced.
I've been with American Home Shield on and off since about 1999, often due to our moving as part of military life. While generally we've had good experiences in the various homes we've insured, there have been issues, such as when I couldn't get service for my stove and dishwasher three years ago, leading me to just buy new ones. Despite this, I generally find the service beneficial, particularly for people who can't afford to replace items outright. It's been useful when things break, though there have been many years we've paid without needing to use the service.
Overall, I would rate my experience with American Home Shield as excellent and would recommend them to friends, especially for new homeowners. However, I'd advise potential customers to consider that while the service fee may be more manageable than replacing appliances, service availability can vary based on location.

I initially had a roofing issue, specifically a leak. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield by calling them directly, and I found it quite easy to reach a representative. The interaction with the agent was straightforward. When Elite Roofing LLC came out to address the problem, the experience was great, very intuitive, and straightforward. They managed to correct the issue temporarily and provided me with options for either replacing the entire roof or just fixing it. I believe they handled it well.
I've been with American Home Shield for about two to three years for peace of mind. What I like most about the service is how fast and reliable it is. However, I think it would be better if there was more clarity on what is included and what is not before signing up for any service. I would tell friends and family that American Home Shield is worth it.
Dear Charif,
Wow! Thank you so much for the feedback. We appreciate your business.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for my central heater, which had gone out during a particularly cold period. The initial technician thought the issue was fixed after adjusting the thermostat, but it wasn’t. However, they promptly sent another technician named Michael, who was great. He quickly diagnosed the problem and ordered the necessary parts, which were installed within two to three days. This efficiency was impressive, especially since my previous service provider took two weeks to respond to similar issues.
Submitting the claim was straightforward. I prefer calling them directly, and they were quick to process my information and provide follow-up details via email. The contractor they sent was excellent, offering additional maintenance suggestions that proved helpful.
Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been positive. They responded swiftly and accurately, which is why I trust their services. In the 20 years I’ve lived in my home, I never realized my heater needed significant repairs until now – the improvement was remarkable.
I highly recommend American Home Shield for their prompt service and excellent contractor connections. My overall satisfaction and their coverage of my warranty have been excellent. The only small downside was the $125 service fee, but it’s worth it considering the quality of service received. I've been very pleased with their performance, especially their ability to quickly get the right people out for service and repairs.

I had a service experience with American Home Shield and Sears regarding my stove. Unfortunately, the technician from Sears wasn't very professional, and the quality of the work was not what I expected. Prior to their visit, they asked me to provide detailed information about my stove, such as the model number but since it came with the house and I had no paperwork. They said this information was necessary to ensure they had the right parts when the technician arrived so I had to look for the model number. However, when the technician came, he asked me to move the stove myself and after inspecting it, he mentioned that a part had to be ordered and left without much communication.
The board they ordered arrived at my house, contrary to my expectations of it being sent to their service center. This miscommunication delayed the repair by another week. Eventually, they came back when scheduled, installed the part, and left without much interaction. Although the stove was working after that, the service experience was less than satisfactory.

I had a mixed experience with American Home Shield. I initially contacted them for a plumbing issue involving a clogged pipe. The first contractor they sent, FAHR Home Solutions, didn't have the necessary equipment to fix the problem completely, as their router was only 25 feet long. American Home Shield then identified a second contractor, Showers Plumbing, who had the appropriate tools and expertise to resolve the issue. While the second contractor was excellent, the delay in finding them was frustrating, taking about 2.5 weeks overall. The technicians themselves were professional and courteous. My main concern was the time it took for American Home Shield to locate a suitable contractor. During the delay, I was inconvenienced as the clogged pipe affected my laundry room, kitchen, and bathroom, preventing me from using them.
On a positive note, I previously experienced a very efficient service from American Home Shield when dealing with an air conditioning issue. The swift response and effective resolution made that situation much easier to handle. The contrast between these two experiences highlighted the variability in service response depending on the type of issue. Overall, I understand the nature of home warranties, but the time taken to resolve the plumbing issue was lengthy and frustrating. Despite this, I acknowledge the satisfactory resolution once the right contractor was found.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I recently had a mixed experience with American Home Shield. I had a claim for my furnace, and the contractor they sent was knowledgeable and courteous. They had to come out twice as the initial diagnosis wasn’t correct, but eventually, the problem was fixed, and the furnace has been working fine since then.
However, my first experience with American Home Shield was less satisfactory. I had issues with some valves, and the plumber they sent was unprofessional, both in appearance and service. He opted to spray WD-40 on the valves instead of replacing them, which didn’t resolve the issue.
Despite the initial hiccup, subsequent experiences improved. A different contractor successfully addressed problems with my refrigerator, and the furnace repair team was persistent in resolving the issue.
One aspect that stood out as challenging was the dual-company structure American Home Shield operates under. It was confusing to deal with two different entities, making the process complicated and unclear at times. Additionally, I found their online tools difficult to use and preferred speaking to someone directly.
Overall, while my experiences with the contractors were varied, the warranty coverage itself was satisfactory, though the pricing might be a bit high for what you get.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield where Fast Response Heating and Cooling came out to replace parts under my house because I didn't have heat for two weeks. They were excellent — in and out quickly, and I'm grateful for that. It happened back in January and they responded very fast. The claim process was smooth; they had to order parts, which took about two days, but once the parts arrived, they replaced them, and I had heat back on.
This was my first experience with American Home Shield and I was very pleased with the company they contracted. The overall service cost is worth it, though I was confused about the $3,000 replacement fee for a new unit, as I thought it would be a total replacement. Nevertheless, I'm doing fine for now and thankful for their help. At 66, I still work and need reliable service without getting taken advantage of. Repairmen have let me down before, but Fast Response was fantastic.

I have been using American Home Shield for about a year and a half now. Recently, I had an issue with my oven. It wasn't functioning correctly, so American Home Shield sent Sears out to take a look. They tried to repair it, but ultimately they couldn't fix it and ended up giving me money to purchase a new one because the part required wasn't working. This process took about two months, but I didn't mind since they attempted a quick temporary fix initially.
Overall, I've filed four claims with them, and three of those went smoothly. However, there was one instance where the vendor came out and claimed everything was fine, even though it clearly wasn't. In the end, I explained the situation to American Home Shield, and they refunded me the charge, which was good customer service.
One area for improvement is their customer service response time, especially when trying to reach someone in a leadership or managerial role—it can take quite a while.
As for their vendors, it's hit or miss—some are great, while others are just average. Generally, I'd rate my experience with American Home Shield as a solid four out of five.

I had a frustrating experience with American Home Shield. My hot water heater went out, and I needed both my toilet and shower handle fixed due to a broken cartridge. Initially, when I reached out, it was difficult to get someone from American Home Shield to listen to my issues. And the plumbing company they sent was quick to inform me that nothing was covered under my contract.
The plumber quoted around $275 for the hot water heater replacement, insisting that it wasn't covered. However, after some back-and-forth and a lot of phone calls, it turned out that the valves were covered. The main issue was a miscommunication which seemed to stem both from the language barrier with the plumber and the assumptions made by the plumbing company. Eventually, a three-way call with American Home Shield and the plumbing company sorted it out.
While the plumber sent was hard to understand, he did help by leaving the old parts with me, proving no modifications were made. The parts were just replaced, which contradicted what had initially been recorded.
While my online claim experience was smooth, as the platform is straightforward to use, the customer service over the phone was lacking. I needed to make about 12 calls in a short period to get through to a helpful representative. In terms of repair quality, everything has been working fine since the adjustments.
When it comes to costs, I faced an issue with the pricing of a shower handle that wasn't covered. The company's quotation wildly exceeded what I could find on my own from retailers, which was quite frustrating.
Overall, while the American Home Shield's website is user-friendly, the persistent issues with customer service and pricing discrepancies made my experience less than satisfactory.

Generally, their customer service is good. They have a dispatch center that helps in scheduling appointments and arranging maintenance, which I find convenient. Their customer service experience gets a 4, indicating I’m quite satisfied with it.

My recent experience with American Home Shield has been quite disappointing. We had an issue with our water heater, which needed to be replaced. The new one provided by the company didn’t match the capacity or efficiency of our previous one. The one we had was a 66-gallon and it was energy-efficient and it would go from hybrid to electric once we wanted it to go electric if we needed more warm water, but this one isn't. It's not even near to what we had. Our home requires a larger unit due to its size, but we received a smaller, less efficient model. The contractor, Free Water Plumbing LLC, was professional and did the best with what was approved, but it wasn’t what we needed.
The process of getting the replacement took longer than expected. Despite stressing the urgency due to water leakage in our garage during freezing weather, it took a while for the situation to be resolved. Initially, the contractor made temporary repairs, but the problem persisted until the entire unit was eventually replaced.
In the past, I've had positive experiences with American Home Shield, especially with an older home where they provided excellent service. However, with this incident, I feel very dissatisfied. If I were to rate them, I'd give a 2.5 out of 5 stars currently. The customer service at the beginning was great. But what I encountered during this last experience was disappointing as they didn't address my concerns adequately. The customer service rep didn't understand where I was coming from, with the unit that I replaced. She said it was what was approved and that's what they could provide for me. While their website and coverage have been solid, the service during this case didn't meet my expectations. I would caution others to ensure they communicate their needs clearly when dealing with them.

Although I wasn't home at the time, my wife mentioned that everything went smoothly during their visit.
After the repairs, the heating is functioning perfectly, as it should. While I would rate the claim process a 4 out of 5, due to some past challenges I faced with communication over the phone, I prefer to use the portal for its simplicity. Previously, with a different company, I could speak directly with a representative, but with American Home Shield, phone calls sometimes lead to misunderstandings. I recommend improving the communication aspect, especially for consumers already frustrated with broken appliances. Despite this, the service is reliable and cost-friendly, which I'd highlight when recommending American Home Shield to friends or family.

Unfortunately, my other experiences with American Home Shield weren't as impressive. This led to further problems, making the process frustrating.
Also, on my last attempt to schedule a repair was through American Home Shield's automated phone system, it incorrectly stated that my appliance wasn't covered. I have been a customer for over 3 years. I wish I could give zero stars. If you don’t believe me, go to the BBB website for HONEST reviews. Their contractors are questionable. I had one write up an absolute lie about a problem in my Home so AHS denied the claim. I called and told them what the contractor wrote in the report was an absolute lie and their response was basically there is nothing they can do since the contractor submitted what they submitted. There is always something that is not covered leaving an out-of-pocket expense that’s insane.
I just paid $1800 to have my water heater replaced with their coverage. I then had a friend that used Home Depot for the same job and a better system was installed and she paid less than what I paid without using a home warranty company. I have tried to cancel several times and keep getting the runaround. No one returns calls or sends email confirmations like they say they will. Please, please do not use this company or at least do your research first. Again look at the BBB website.
Good day, K. Thanks for your feedback.
I am sorry to see that the warranty plan is not working out for you the way that you had hoped. Our warranty plans are designed to reduce costs, but no warranty plan can eliminate costs completely. The expenses you paid for the water heater replacement were expenses that are explicitly not covered in the contract. With an authorized parts replacement, AHS will always cover the cost of the tech's labor to install and the cost of the replacement equipment. The cost of modifying that equipment to go into one's home and the cost of options that must be added due to federal, state, or municipal building codes are costs that fall to the homeowner.
The overall cost of the repair is still generally lower than the cost would be to have the repair done outside of the warranty plan; if that were not true, then AHS could not have grown to be the market leader in home warranty service over a 6 decade period. In cases where homeowners do think that they can find a better deal for a repair or replacement outside of our vendor network, you always have the option to request a cash-in-lieu reimbursement. This allows you to take the money that AHS would have spent on the repair or replacement and instead select your own vendor to resolve the situation.
You stated that you've tried to cancel several times. I've tried to locate your AHS account using the email you have listed on the Consumer Affairs site, but it does not pull up an account. If you still need help, please send us an email to consumeraffairs@ahs.com. As the subject line, put "Attention: Ken, Review # 13697881 for K. Andrews. "

The people that American Home Shield uses are not qualified to come out and give me any kind of quotes or fix the problem. They come out and do as little as possible. They just try to sell me their unit from them and not AHS. All they try to do is make money for themselves. We had Fast Response. They didn't fix anything. They never do. They came, got their $100, and said that our blower is not compatible with our unit. But it has been compatible for four years. They wouldn't do anything. They just left. The tech told me, “Just run it on emergency heat” which costs a lot more in the blower because it doesn't go through the blower. It goes to the outside unit.
Fast Response was supposed to give me even prices. I've requested that I don't want them at my house, but they are always the ones that come out. I let them come in and I'm very unhappy with it. Upon returning, the contractor identified a part as the issue, which was a safety mechanism. He was thorough in explaining this to me, and the performance has been good since the repair. He did advise me not to keep it on for long periods due to the system's age and the replacement part's longevity.
Overall, I've had a positive experience with American Home Shield. The customer service was responsive, and their online tools are user-friendly. However, I found the initial cost for a service visit to be somewhat high compared to the monthly fee. In summary, they seem to be one of the leading warranty companies.

When my garbage disposal seemed faulty, it turned out the issue was with the drain itself. A plumber came and efficiently resolved the problem by snaking the drain about 30 feet. The turnaround time was quick; I submitted my claim one evening, and the plumber contacted me the next day.
The contractor was professional and offered to assist with any further issues. Since the repair, everything has been running smoothly without any problems. This was my second repair experience with American Home Shield, and both times the response was prompt, and the contractors were courteous.
One of the contract features I appreciated is that if they can't fix something, they will replace it at their cost. Though I haven't needed a replacement yet, I expect them to honor this as they appear to be a reputable company.
Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield to others based on my positive experiences. I rate their service highly and find their website easy to navigate. However, I have noticed that the price of the warranty has increased over time, which is a concern for the future.

American Home Shield is a good company. They're very professional. Once I call the people who are gonna fix my issue, they call in less than 30 minutes. When I had my garage door fixed, the company who came out did a really good job. However, the people who I called Friday about fixing my washing machine haven't called me yet. Also, when submitting a claim, you don't talk to anybody live anymore. It's still smooth but sometimes you need to be able to talk to somebody live. Another thing is when I first started with American Home Shield five years ago, the cost was was $75. Now, it's gone up to $100.

American Home Shield has always responded quickly and I'm satisfied. I've had a good experience the last three years that I've had them. If they couldn't repair what's broken, they've always been fair in offering some kind of cash settlement. Recently, my washer went out and it was unrepairable. In lieu of trying to repair it, we're in the process of them sending me cash. When I signed up, they went over everything, offered me different variables, more coverage and what coverage they had. My plan covers mostly everything and the price is more reasonable than some other home warranty companies. I'm gonna renew again when it comes in June.

I have been a loyal customer of American Home Shield for over 30 years, ever since I bought my house. The previous owners included a year-long policy with the home sale due to the high cost of potential repairs like HVAC, so I decided to maintain the coverage. My most recent experience was when I had to file a claim to repair my heating system, and the process was straightforward. A quick call was all it took to get a contractor out to my place, who handled the repair efficiently.
I'm satisfied with the performance; my heater is working fine now. Over the years, I've found their customer service to be very responsive. While I think the prices have increased, I rate the price of the coverage as a 4. As for the online tools and website, they deserve a 5. Renewing my coverage is a breeze, usually through a text or email notification. Overall, American Home Shield has been reliable, and they are there when I need them.

My experience with American Home Shield was disappointing. I signed up based on a family friend's recommendation, thinking it was a great warranty service. However, they were not transparent about the limitations of their service. After a technician came out and checked the situation, they sent me documents outlining restrictions that were never communicated before. This lack of transparency made the warranty pointless for me as I could have just paid out of pocket.
When the contractor came, he quickly took some pictures and left for another appointment without thoroughly walking me through the issues. I ended up using a utility company's service for repairs because American Home Shield's contractor presented a $5,000 bill, which was contrary to my expectations of the warranty covering such costs.
Although my friend had a good experience and would rate them highly, I can only give American Home Shield a 2. They failed to provide the necessary contract limitations upfront, which influenced my decision negatively. I also had a poor customer service experience since calls were outsourced, making effective communication challenging. When I needed further explanation, it felt more like I was given standard assurances rather than actual solutions. I would rate their customer service a 2 as well.
The app provides some information, but it lacks detailed limitations that could help in making more informed decisions. Overall, the warranty products deserve a 3, given they clarify what is covered and what isn't. The sales and marketing aspects were not appealing either since I only heard about them from my cousin rather than any direct marketing efforts. In terms of the online tool, improvements can be made to include comprehensive details about the limitations within the app.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend them without cautioning potential consumers to thoroughly review their contract details.

I have been satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. It's almost time for me to renew my contract, and I'm planning to do so. I switched from Sears to American Home Shield and prefer the latter. I've had two claims so far and the most recent claim was during a snowstorm when my central heating went out. Despite the city being closed due to the storm, American Home Shield scheduled a repair for Friday, and the contractor arrived as soon as the roads were clear on Saturday. It turned out to be just a breaker box issue, and the young, courteous contractor handled it efficiently. He was attentive, checked everything thoroughly, and kept me informed throughout the process. I've been pleased with the performance of the unit since then and to ensure I'm prepared next time, I even bought extra electric heaters as a precaution.
The first issue I had was with my toilet that kept running. The service technician, a tall gentleman, addressed the issue professionally and quickly. Everything has been working so far and overall, I am impressed with American Home Shield's service. The customer service has been excellent and the pricing is reasonable for a senior on a fixed income like myself.

American Home Shield (AHS) has been negligent with utilizing the company Air Plus for years. We contacted AHS when our furnace stopped working on January 31st. AHS responded by sending out Air Plus based in Sumter, SC. Air Plus arrived on Feb 5 and diagnosed the problem as the wrong voltage transformer; they installed a new one causing the control board to burn out. Air Plus technician stated they would contact AHS to cover the replacement parts. Air Plus, in the AHS notes fabricated they found a burned-out control board and transformer caused by a power surge when they arrived. I explained to AHS that Air Plus misrepresented what happened at my residence.
After researching Air Plus, we realized this company has a history of poor ratings by customers along with years of various negative complaints. AHS has known about these complaints but has continued sending out an incompetent company such as Air Plus and its technicians to customers in need of quality service providers. AHS has failed their customers and their contractual obligations. Air Plus clearly has a history of damaging property/equipment, poor customer service and leaving problems unresolved. We spent 2 weeks without heat and did not hear from AHS or Air Plus, to the point where we had to go out of pocket with a new company for over $1,000 to repair what Air Plus broke.
The new company we contacted could see that it was a simple sensor issue and not the control board nor the transformer. It is unprofessional for Air plus to fabricate or misrepresent the facts that they misdiagnosed a minor problem and created a major problem. Air Plus never reached out to see if they could help rectify the situation nor did they return my calls. After considering the facts and lack of response the only solution is to end the contract with American Home Shield immediately for failure to cover cost and creating a financial burden that I had to resolve.

I recently had an interaction with American Home Shield (AHS) regarding a claim for my garage door. Initially, the door wasn't responding to the button press, but strangely enough, when the technician arrived, it was functioning perfectly. My husband dealt with the contractor, and everything seemed to work when the technician was there.
I've been with AHS off and on for many years since I first purchased my home. It's common practice for homes to come with some sort of home protection plan, though it's different now than it used to be. The service back in the day was better and cheaper, but having a home warranty is still essential for homeowners, particularly for women managing a household.
Regarding the service provided by AHS, I think of it like comparing different cereals. They all serve the same basic purpose; some are just more expensive than others. I feel like the cost has gone up significantly over the years. We used to pay around $50 for services, and now it's up to $150 for a visit.
The contractors, whether through AHS or any other service, have generally been professional. They come in, finish the job, and leave. One challenge I encountered was with the quality of replacements. For instance, when my pricey kitchen faucet needed replacement, they only provided a basic model, citing that they only offer "builder grade" replacements per the policy's fine print.
Additionally, AHS has these persistent follow-up calls that remind me of an overzealous date you can't get rid of. While I appreciate the due diligence, sometimes their outreach is excessive.
Overall, I would say my experience with American Home Shield is mixed. It's important to have a home warranty, but it's essential to be aware of what you're getting—especially the limitations of replacements as they only provide builder-grade solutions. Despite some drawbacks, having that safety net can be useful for unexpected home repair issues.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield when Frank's Appliances came to fix our refrigerator. Initially, we faced issues with the water dispenser on the freezer door, which only produced a trickle of water, while the ice maker was producing small and hollow ice cubes. When the repair technician came, they ordered a new filter, a water valve, and a few other parts. After a wait, they installed these parts, and both the water and ice seemed to work at first.
However, we started noticing that the water was leaking into the ice tray, creating small blocks of ice alongside the cubes. We had to call American Home Shield again, and they promptly set up another visit from Frank's Appliances. During this second visit, the technician determined there was no hole in our ice tray and decided the valve needed replacing again. Despite this inconvenience, they were proactive and set up another appointment to install the needed parts.
The initial process of setting up the claim through American Home Shield was straightforward. I filled out the request form on their website, paid the initial service fee, and didn't have to pay anything beyond that. Although our location is 75 miles west of Oklahoma City and lacks local service partners, the technicians from Oklahoma City and sometimes from further west have provided excellent service.
Overall, I would rate my experience with American Home Shield as 5 stars. Despite some initial challenges, they have consistently provided good service for various issues, including significant past claims with our air conditioner and oven. While there aren't local partners, the service quality and professionalism have outweighed this inconvenience.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I recently had a mixed experience with American Home Shield regarding a furnace issue. Fast Response Heating and Cooling came out quickly but didn't have the necessary part for a week, leaving me without heat during that period. I felt misled by a technician who promised a temporary fix and coaxed me into giving a good review but never returned as promised.
The process of submitting claims is straightforward, often involving speaking with a live representative, which is easy. However, there's a significant delay in getting the actual service from contractors.
I discovered that American Home Shield sources some parts from overseas, which potentially lengthens wait times, emphasizing the need for better local warehousing solutions. Their contractors sometimes come from quite far, which can delay urgent repairs.
In the past, I've also had issues with a water heater that required multiple visits and eventually resulted in a significant water bill due to a leak. Despite this, they have provided satisfactory service occasionally, even paying for emergency services from a local contractor when their timeline was too long.
It's hit or miss with American Home Shield. Sometimes it's good. They need to have people that work 24 hours like some of these companies and people on-call instead of waiting for you to call in, and then somebody calls you within 48 hours. They need somebody who can get out here in the middle of the night. Overall, while American Home Shield can be adequate at times, they need to improve their response times and ensure more timely assistance, especially in emergencies. Given my recent experience, I'd rate them around a 3 out of 5.

The Communication was normal but the effort by the technician was inadequate and did not address and complete the problem. The AHS policy covers up to 100 feet of distance but I watched on video camera as this technician did not use the full length of the tool yet he wrote up that he used the tool up to 125 feet which was nonsense. He never used anything close to 100 feet. He also used it at the farthest point away from the property line which he claim the tool could not reach. I measured it from the home's clear-out point and property line and it is only 33 feet to the property line yet the technician claimed they ran the tool 125 feet yet he could not clear the blockage.
I have video proving this guy only used part of the tool to try and clear out the blockage. With the distance only being 33 feet the 100 feet policy would easily clear the blockage to the property line yet he wrote up that it need a longer device and reported that to American Home Shield yet the tech wrote up that customer have main line stoppage. Tech snake the line up to 125ft but was not able to clear stoppage. Tech recommend to have a vendor that has bigger snake and camera the line.
This was extremely poor customer service and misleading to say you did something you didn't do then charge a service fee then make it where I would have pay for so-called noncovered cost associated with this service to this same vendor which was Waldorf Plumbing. Be aware of this company which was hired by American Home Shield. Poor service, did not complete the job and closed out the service request as complete. Took the money and did a poor job.
Good day William. Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this service issue. We were able to locate your account request using the information in your profile.
In situations where a vendor's diagnosis results in a denial, the customer has the option of requesting a second opinion from a different vendor. When AHS dispatches the second opinion vendor, we do not tell them the reason for the denial in order to help ensure independent assessment. I have been a faithful customer of American Home Shield for four years. I finally made a claim on a microwave that had stopped heating. They sent out a technician (Feb 14, 2025) who left a report that said the following: it was not heating due to the magnetron going bad, needing to be replaced. The hinges were loosening on the door, recommended replacement. This is all covered in the AHS contract.
However, AHS lied and said that the technician didn't report these items, so they denied my claim. They said the technician didn't say anything about the magnetron being bad. However, the work order itself clearly says that it is bad and needs to be replaced, and the AHS contract clearly says it's covered. So -- I called to dispute on February 17, and after talking to six different people at a call center in the Philippines, I finally said I wanted to cancel the account. Once he understood I was serious, the customer service person said he would send someone out to fix it, with no additional charge and apologized, said it was their mistake. So, he opened another work order and said it would be fixed, if only I would not cancel.
Then, despite a text saying someone would come within 24 hours, 4 days later on February 21 I called the repair company (which is fake - just another AHS person in their Philippines call center pretending to be a separate company) to ask why no one had come. She said it was a mistake, that she would figure it out and call me back. Instead, she canceled the work order that same day. So, I called back again, and they said they didn’t know why the work order was canceled, but that I could pay the fee again to submit another request. So on Feb 22 I called again to cancel. After many tries to cancel and talking to many people, they finally canceled my account, but they still charged me after I canceled!!!
I now have to pay to get my microwave repaired ($450), even though it was supposedly covered by AHS, and a fraudulent charge ($96) that was posted to my credit card. This is an outrageous scam company. They took my money for years, denied an obvious claim with all kinds of lies and manipulation, and then charged me more after I cancelled. Please save yourself the pain and frustration of even thinking about signing up with these liars and cheats.
Hello Peggy. Thank you for your feedback.
I understand that you are frustrated, but we've been unable to locate any information at all regarding your service request. The email address associated with your Consumer Affairs account is not pulling up an AHS service request, and your name also did not pull up a request. Also, your statement that AHS is impersonating a repair agency is incorrect. AHS clearly states in the contract that we are NOT a repair company, and we dispatch our service calls to US-based repair vendors.
If you still need assistance and can provide concrete details confirming the account and service request, I will be happy to take another look at the request. Please email your contract address and the work order dispatch number, as well as the name of the account holder, to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com. Thank you.

We had a toilet leaking and it was a really good experience to submit the claim online with AHS. The techs were good but more work needed to be done, so we were told to contact American Home Shield and they have the worst call center situation. Then, the techs came back, but the toilet leak didn't show. We shut off the water because it flooded our bathroom, so there was no visible leaks anymore. We turned on the water that morning of the appointment but it didn't want to leak. Then they closed it and said that if it leaked, we should call them.
The thing is, the problem happens overnight when we're asleep or when we're not home. So it was a hit or miss with the leak, but American Home Shield's service at the time seemed good because they communicated with the contractor. At other times, when I would contact American Home Shield for other services in our other home and the techs have to come back again, it would get hard. Or when they tell us that American Home Shield will give us a call because their services don't cover the work needed, no one ever calls us for weeks. Then I have to call the call center. So, AHS needs to do better following up with every customer.
I had an AC issue last year and it was months of the follow-up that I had to work harder than American Home Shield did, because I was the one calling things in, calling them, calling the contractor, and calling them again. Those two were pointing fingers at each other when I asked how much the repair would cost. The contractor told me that I had to get the quote from American Home Shield. But AHS said I had to get the quote from the company. There were many points where I had to call them on three-way. Eventually, the AC situation got fixed and I had to pay.
All in all, AHS is good to have and we've had them for many years. But I wouldn't recommend them because of the constant back and forth and the lack of follow-up. There are other companies now that are available. I'm enduring the experience only because I have three properties with them, but then I am paying three different prices, and I don't have to be. I should call them about that.

My experience with American Home Shield has been positive over the five years I've been with them. Recently, I had a claim with their contractor, Clearing Pool and Spa Service, to fix a recurring issue with my Jacuzzi. The heater, pump, and temperature sensor were replaced after the system kept tripping the breaker. The technician initially seemed unsure, but they eventually resolved the issue, and everything ran well for about three weeks.
However, the problem resurfaced, prompting me to call an electrician who ruled out any breaker issues. I've had to bypass the warranty and contact Jacuzzi directly. It seems like my Jacuzzi is a lemon, given the numerous parts replaced over five years—four heaters, two circuit boards, and many sensors and pumps. Despite this, American Home Shield has consistently done what they promised and resolved issues with my equipment, so I would rate them a 5 out of 5.

I had a frustrating experience with American Home Shield regarding my refrigerator, which was not cooling. The initial claim dates back to August when Sears was supposed to come out for the repair. After several no-shows from Sears, the service was transferred to another company. Unfortunately, even after multiple visits and component replacements by various servicemen, the refrigerator's issue remained unresolved. By November, one technician suggested it might need replacing, though Home Shield insisted there were no mechanical problems.
Despite numerous attempts to rectify this over several months, including paying additional service fees, my refrigerator still doesn't cool properly. The most troubling visit was from an arrogant young technician from Sears who claimed a refrigerator running at 40 to 50 degrees was normal, which is unacceptable for food storage.
After a series of ineffective service attempts and unsatisfactory support from American Home Shield, I've decided to cancel my service with them. I've been a customer for 8 years, but their failure to resolve this issue and their lack of accountability compelled me to make this decision. My sons, who also were customers, have canceled their services due to similar dissatisfaction.

I recently had my first experience with American Home Shield when I needed a repair for my garage door. The spring and cables had broken, and the technician assessed the situation quickly. Although he didn't have the exact spring needed right away, he went to get it and promised to return by the end of the day after completing another job. True to his word, he came back and successfully fixed the door. Overall, I was impressed with the service and would rate it highly.

I encountered an issue with my garbage disposal and contacted American Home Shield. They promptly connected me with Delmar Plumbing and Construction Inc., who arranged an appointment swiftly. The technician who came was punctual, courteous, and very knowledgeable, advising on a better model of disposal. My husband was present during the visit and noted how efficient and tidy the technician was.
However, there was one negative experience when another vendor completely disregarded my input and communicated only with my husband, despite me being the primary contact. This incident slightly marred my otherwise satisfactory interactions with American Home Shield.
Overall, I appreciate how efficiently American Home Shield assigns vendors and manages claims, making the process smooth, except when dealing with high-demand items like air conditioners in summer.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield concerning my refrigerator, which had both an air and water leak. They acted promptly by fixing the water leak on the first day and returned later to address the air leak, which required a new gasket. However, the process was delayed, which was a bit frustrating. My experiences with American Home Shield have varied; some have been excellent, while others were less satisfactory. It seems to depend largely on the technician dispatched. My recent technician was quite effective, even though the repair took longer. Overall, I would rate American Home Shield a 4 out of 5, noting that the quality of technicians could be an area of improvement.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield when our sink was completely stopped. Although we had to wait for two days due to an intense cold snap in Alabama, their response was understandable given the circumstances. Submitting the claim online was straightforward—simply paying the $100 deductible and having someone call us for service. The contractors arrived promptly and fixed the issue efficiently, and everything has been working smoothly since.
Throughout multiple incidents over the years, American Home Shield has consistently been responsive and helpful. It's reassuring to know you can speak directly to a human representative when needed. The convenience and peace of mind offered by their service justify the cost, particularly as I approach retirement and appreciate having predictable expenses for repairs instead of unexpected large costs.
While the monthly fee of $80 sometimes makes me consider self-funding repairs, the ease of service and budgeting make it worthwhile. The online tools are user-friendly, and overall, the security and reliability of having American Home Shield are invaluable, especially for someone planning their finances for the future.

I've had a negative experience with American Home Shield. My latest issue was with a plumbing problem involving a rusted-out water heater, which was not resolved promptly. In California, it's illegal to be without hot water, and my HOA alerted me to the issue due to a leak. Unfortunately, American Home Shield only seemed to have one plumber on rotation—Honest Plumbing—and they couldn't respond for days. I had to fix it myself, which was quite frustrating.
In the past, American Home Shield has offered discounts and paid trade service call fees to keep me as a customer, but not for the sake of saying good things about them. However, their service has consistently been lacking. They need to expand their network of contractors since relying on one vendor is inefficient, especially when that vendor has a poor reputation. They should allow homeowners to choose a licensed and insured vendor independently, matching integrity and turnaround times. To anyone considering them, I'd advise caution. My experience has been consistently disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend them.

I've been with American Home Shield since my husband passed away because I knew I wouldn't be able to afford costly repairs or replacements on one income. My washing machine was knocking, and the service from National Factory Services resolved it; they said something about loose springs. The contractor was really nice and fixed both my washer and stove. What I appreciate most about American Home Shield is their prompt communication. They respond quickly whenever I reach out, and they let me know when parts arrive, which was particularly helpful when getting a part for my stove. Initially, it was surprising to learn about the upfront service charge of $125 to $150, which I wasn't expecting. However, I've recommended American Home Shield to others because it can potentially save a lot of money on repairs. I've told friends that it's a smart choice to avoid hefty repair costs.

I've been a long-time customer of American Home Shield, both as a realtor and a homeowner. Recently, I filed a claim for a dishwasher repair. Submitting the claim was straightforward through the website, which is easy to navigate. After filling out the necessary information and paying the fee, I quickly received a notification that a technician had been assigned. They reached out promptly, sometimes even the same day. The contractor who visited my home was courteous and professional, and I was already familiar with him from a previous claim. He respected my home and ensured everything was in order. The repair he conducted was successful, and the dishwasher is now working perfectly.
Having had an American Home Shield warranty since I bought my first home back in the early 2000s, I've always been impressed with their service. They consistently fulfill their contract obligations. As a realtor, I often recommend them to clients, advocating for an American Home Shield warranty specifically. Overall, I am immensely satisfied with American Home Shield, and from my extensive experience, I consider them one of the best in the business.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield due to an issue with the inducer on my furnace. It was making a loud squeaking noise, so I reached out for their assistance. Initially, the process was frustrating as I had to call them to submit a ticket, but it took a long time to create, causing delays. This experience highlighted the need for a faster, simpler process, especially during winter when prompt service is crucial.
During the first visit from the contractor, they identified the failing inducer but mentioned American Home Shield's policy prevented them from replacing it until it completely stopped working. This policy was incredibly frustrating since the screeching noise was unbearable, and I had a newborn at home. Although the furnace was still operational, it was clear the part was failing, which made the situation stressful.
While I appreciate the service American Home Shield offers, especially since having coverage is better than none, improvements could be made. For instance, having the option to select only HVAC coverage rather than bundled HVAC and plumbing packages would be preferable. This would provide more tailored and cost-effective options for consumers.
For potential customers, I'd suggest considering American Home Shield's services but being aware of the policies that could affect urgent repairs. My overall rating would be a 3 out of 5 due to these inconveniences. Though the customer service team was helpful, the delays in ticket processing and lack of coverage customization were areas that could be improved.

I recently had a plumbing issue in my home and American Home Shield contracted Water Solutions INC to address the problem. The issue was with my shower, where the water was constantly running, and also with the toilet, which took a long time to fill after flushing. The contractor replaced the seals in the shower faucet and adjusted the toilet, resolving both problems perfectly.
Submitting the claim was initially difficult due to a wrong button press, but the customer service team was very helpful and guided me in the right direction. I received timely updates via text from both American Home Shield and the contractor when he was on his way. The contractor was punctual, professional, and communicated clearly about the repairs he was making.
I'm very happy with the outcome and would rate American Home Shield highly. I recommend them as they are dependable, though I feel the service could be improved by reverting to a lower deductible, as it was $50 before and now it's $100. Despite this, I still find their service valuable and would suggest them to friends and family. The customer service was excellent, and I would give it a 5. But the price gets a 4 due to the recent increase. Overall, everything was resolved to my satisfaction.

I put a claim in on my double oven, my dishwasher and my microwave. The double oven is 27 years old and instead of replacing it because the thermostats are no longer available, American Home Shield offered to rebuild the thermostat. I have no idea though if it’s gonna be an Underwriters Laboratories-certified rebuild. It was a 12-week delay and they paid me 340 some odd dollars in lieu of a new thermostat, which leaves me with a dead oven that I had to replace for a total of $2,700. So, I'm not happy about that.
I was under the understanding that if AHS couldn't repair an appliance, they could replace it. But I'm not looking for a rebuilt thermostat. That involves safety to my home. And trying to revive a 27-year-old oven with no factory replacement parts or legitimate aftermarket parts is not acceptable to me. AHS claimed it was a pre-existing condition on the dishwasher and they weren't gonna cover it. The microwave had a cracked door and they replaced the door. Out of the three issues that I had, I had one of them satisfactorily taken care of.

I had a recent experience with American Home Shield regarding an issue with my furnace. Unfortunately, American Home Shield's policy is not to fix anything until it is completely broken, despite being informed by Omni Home Comfort that something is wrong and will eventually fail. This approach is quite frustrating as it feels like waiting for my furnace to break down completely before getting any help.
Omni Home Comfort, the company sent by American Home Shield, was exceptional in their service. Their customer service was great, informative, and very helpful. They reported the issue to American Home Shield, but no action was taken because the furnace was not technically "broken."
This wasn't the first time I faced communication issues with American Home Shield. Although they send surveys, they have never directly contacted me to discuss my experiences or concerns. The lack of direct communication is disappointing.
If I could share one suggestion with American Home Shield, it would be to address potential problems proactively rather than waiting for a complete failure. When a technician or service provider identifies an impending issue, they should act on this information.
Overall, based on their approach and lack of communication, I would rate my experience with American Home Shield at 2 stars. I've been satisfied with the service providers they send, but the company's overall service and communication could use improvement.
The service fee and monthly price have been reasonable and the coverage is adequate, though I believe more detail could be provided about what exactly is covered. Submitting claims online is straightforward and efficient, deserving a 5-star rating.
I hope American Home Shield considers this feedback to improve their service and address issues like the one I faced with my furnace proactively.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield that I would describe as overall positive. I initially faced an issue with the freezer portion of my refrigerator, which basically malfunctioned. To handle this, I submitted a claim through a phone call, and I must highlight that I actually spoke to a representative, not an automated system, which was a relief given the unusual circumstances.
The interaction with the claims representative was quite satisfactory. They seemed to genuinely understand the problem and were responsive, which eased my concerns regarding the replacement process. Ladd's Appliance, the contractor sent out by American Home Shield, arrived promptly. They were friendly, efficient, and quickly assessed the situation by taking necessary photographs to document the damage.
American Home Shield offered me a replacement option through their website, where the process of selecting a new appliance was clear-cut. They provided options detailing any additional costs, covering delivery, installation, and removal of the old appliance. I found the online tool to be very helpful.
Regarding customer service, I’d give it a 4 as they were fast and focused, though I’m usually reluctant to give a perfect score. The coverage could use some improvement and similarly, the fees seem a bit high, so both get a 3. The aspect of pricing during appliance selection could be improved by incorporating feedback systems similar to Amazon's, which would aid in comparison shopping. This is important to me as a keen shopper who values getting the best deal. A more competitive and up-to-date pricing model on their site could benefit consumers who do not have the time or inclination to shop around.
In summary, American Home Shield addressed my issue swiftly and efficiently, resolving a significant problem where my refrigerator was no longer functional. While there's room for improvement, particularly in pricing and coverage, my experience was substantially positive and I'd likely recommend their services in similar situations.

However, my neighbor strongly recommended it, so I decided to get the coverage for peace of mind, knowing that potential repair costs could be significantly minimized.
I've been with American Home Shield for nearly two years now. The service gives me a sense of security should anything go wrong, like when my air conditioner needed repair. Although I paid $125 as a service fee, the repair cost did not include all necessary parts, resulting in additional expenses. The technician explained that without the service, my total outlay would have been much higher, so I appreciated the savings.
I've also experienced ongoing issues with a faulty ice maker in my refrigerator since last August. However, I was not fond of how the payment process was structured online, as it required providing banking or credit card information without any visible secure alternative options like Google Pay or PayPal.
When the assigned contractor, Whitney T Holdings, came to resolve the issue, they initially had to reschedule the appointment on the day of, which was inconvenient. Fortunately, I was not working, but such a change could have been problematic if I had to take a day off from work. I've been a customer of American Home Shield for over four years and have always been satisfied with their service. They consistently uphold their advertised promises. Years ago, we made the mistake of switching to Choice, which was a frustrating experience with constant issues and excuses about coverage. In contrast, American Home Shield promptly replaced our water heater and repaired our furnace without any hassles.
I typically set up service requests online, and the turnaround time is reasonable. They arrange for competent contractors efficiently, unlike Choice, which struggled to find reliable technicians. I had an icemaker that went out on my refrigerator and that's when the trouble started. American Home Shield sent out about five different plumbing people to come out and do it. The first company had me defrost everything out of my refrigerator. So, I lost all that food. And then he came back and he brought parts and then he supposedly fixed it. Then we said, "It wasn't fixed." So, then he said, "Well, you have to defrost again." He went back in. He totally rebuilt the icemaker and it was supposed to have been fixed and it wasn't.
Another company came out and they did parts and it's still wasn't fixed. One company said, "It was completely rebuilt, the icemaker, but it still is not working." And the last report that I did to them was this year, I called and I told them, "Look, this is not fixed yet." And they said, "Well, we'll contact another company." And I've never heard anything else from American Home Shield about a new person coming out. But the last person in April of last year was supposed to replace the panel on the front of my refrigerator where the icemaker's at, but they never came back and did it. I'm still without an icemaker. The bottom line is that refrigerator needs to be replaced.
According to the contracts that American Home Shield have, if it's not replaced after trying to have it fixed three times at least, there's either a payout or a replacement. Now, I've had my washer done once and I had a heater done once and that's what happened. They replaced it. But this icemaker in my refrigerator has never been taken care of.

I've had a long-term relationship with American Home Shield (AHS) and recently made a claim through their partner, Quality Appliance, for a clothes dryer issue. The technician was prompt, knowledgeable, and polite. He quickly diagnosed the issue, ordered the necessary parts, and returned within a week to complete the repair to my satisfaction. This experience was quite positive compared to some previous encounters with AHS service provider.
However, I faced significant challenges with a plumbing issue. After multiple poor experiences with a particular plumbing company AHS sent, I requested an alternative, to no avail. The company’s limitations in offering alternative service providers led to a delay in resolving my issue. Frustrated with the recurring incompetence, I had to resort to handling the plumbing repair independently. AHS did reimburse me, albeit after a prolonged wait of nearly a month, which was inconvenient.
While the company has its drawbacks, such as limited choices for contractors and delayed payments, I still recommend AHS to others. The costs are often more manageable than sourcing technicians independently, especially for seniors like myself.

I recently had an experience with American Home Shield as I needed help with a recurring issue with my refrigerator. The service from Bayer Appliance Services, the vendor, has been prompt and responsive, and I appreciated their efforts. My concern, however, is with American Home Shield's online service. Initially, I reached out by phone, which worked seamlessly, but when I tried to report an unresolved issue online, my requests seemed to go unnoticed. I submitted the problem multiple times online, but there was no acknowledgment from American Home Shield, which was frustrating. I prefer resolving issues online rather than calling, so this was quite disappointing.
When I reached customer support by phone, my experience was much better, and the service was satisfactory, but their online system needs improvement. Based on my overall experience, I would rate American Home Shield with a 4 out of 5, considering the helpfulness of the vendor but deducting points for the ineffective online service.
We appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

I recently had a mixed experience with American Home Shield. My most recent claim involved multiple electrical issues, including three ceiling fans and a couple of light fixtures that weren't working. I processed the claim through the American Home Shield site, which was straightforward this time, unlike a previous plumbing issue that took six months to resolve.
When the contractor from R&R Electrical All Stars arrived, he effectively addressed and repaired the issues, explaining what was wrong with each fan and providing advice on resetting them if issues arose again. Everything's been working well since his visit.
While this recent experience was positive and worth a 5-star rating, my overall impression of American Home Shield is more nuanced due to past difficulties, leading me to rate them a 3 overall. The quality of service largely depends on the contractor's proficiency. I chose American Home Shield based on a positive recommendation from my neighbor, and because I needed a reliable way for my son, who lives at my home, to handle repairs without hassle.

My experience with American Home Shield was generally satisfactory. I initially encountered an issue with my dryer, which wasn't spinning or drying correctly. When I submitted the claim, I found the process of calling in to be straightforward with no significant difficulties. My husband was at home when the contractors came to make the repairs, and he said they were adequate. Although I wasn't personally briefed on the specifics of the repair, he mentioned that they replaced a part in the dryer.
Since the repair, the dryer is working better, though I did expect a full replacement as suggested by American Home Shield if the problem couldn't be fixed. Despite that, they managed to resolve the issue with a part replacement.
When reflecting on my overall experience with American Home Shield, I would rate them a 3 out of 5. They were neither superb nor disappointing, sitting comfortably in the middle ground, similar to my experiences with other home warranty services I've tried.
I appreciate that they seem to have a good number of servicemen available, which is a plus. However, I find their deductible to be quite high. Paying $125 upfront over the phone, before service begins, is a new process to me, and it feels like a significant change from before when payment was only made after the service. This upfront payment on a credit or debit card before any work is done is a new approach that perhaps all companies are adopting, possibly due to past issues.
Overall, I think of American Home Shield as on par with other warranty services I've used.

I have been with American Home Shield for about three years, and I have to say that they have provided excellent service and coverage, especially living out in the country where we rely on a well pump. They are one of the few warranty companies that offer coverage for this, which was a big factor in our decision to go with them. Initially, we faced an issue with our fridge; it was making odd clicking noises and the temperature didn't seem right even though the digital display showed it was. The Sears contractor suggested it could be the main chip, as no error codes were appearing. While waiting for parts, I've been impressed with how efficiently American Home Shield has handled everything, especially considering there was a holiday.
I've found that their customer service is a world apart from our previous warranty provider, where call center interactions were scripted and often frustrating. With American Home Shield, I've experienced quick, effective communication where my issues are heard and addressed without the need for endless repetition. Their choice of service providers has also been convenient, preventing unnecessary long commutes for technicians which previously led to taking entire days off work.
I would rate American Home Shield a 5 out of 5 since they have been a great investment, offering reliable coverage and superior customer service. I've spoken with their representatives both online and over the phone, and I've found the process to be straightforward and reassuring. I would wholeheartedly recommend American Home Shield to family and friends looking for a dependable home warranty service.

But that person just removed it and threw it on my roof. So the last guy couldn't do anything because the piece had to be replaced. Every time I called American Home Shield to see what was going on, everybody kept telling me, "Oh, we don't know what you're talking about." I said, "What do you mean you don't know? I have a claim thing in a jiggy." Then the next would say, "Okay. I'll put everything in the notes. And then I promise I'll call you right back.” But now it's been three weeks since she did it and no one's called me back. So, nothing has been done, and the stuff was never repaired. I've been a customer of American Home Shield for over 25 years. When I faced an issue with my washer not dispensing water properly, I submitted a claim online, which I found very easy to use. The experience with Blue Collar Appliance Repair, whom they sent out, was excellent. The technician was professional, communicated well, and wore protective booties inside my home. After they resolved the issue, my washer has been working perfectly without any problems.
Initially, I switched away from American Home Shield due to price concerns and experimented with Choice Warranty after hearing mixed reviews, but the service was poor. The contractors were delayed, and my friend experienced similar issues with his own claims. Because of this, we returned to American Home Shield. We’ve found their contracted service providers to be reliable and efficient.
One improvement I’d suggest for American Home Shield is better consistency in customer service, particularly when re-signing with them. It was challenging to connect with the same salesperson to address questions. Despite this, I appreciate the service overall, and I understand their price increases due to market trends.
In terms of ratings, I would give them a 5 across the board for customer service, price, the website's ease of use, and the quality of service and coverage. I’ve even recommended their service to friends who have since become customers as well.

My experience with American Home Shield wasn't particularly smooth. Our heater stopped working, so we contacted them and they sent Chesapeake Comfort Systems to diagnose the issue. Initially, they identified the problem as the control board needing replacement. It took a week before they returned with the part, and although it worked briefly, it stopped again soon after. When they came back, a different technician said it was still the control board, but without any prior notes. This back-and-forth left us without clear communication, relying on space heaters and increasing our electric bill. After seeking a second and third opinion, it turned out the actual issue was with the pressure switch, which we had replaced for significantly less money.
When rating American Home Shield’s contractor quality, I’d give them a 3 out of 5. The response time was poor, and we often had to initiate follow-ups. Even their customer service feels lacking. You're only greeted with automated prompts, which isn’t ideal when you need human assistance. Despite these challenges, I've rated their customer service and price around 4 or 4.5 out of 5 because of past experiences, though recent events have made me feel more neutral.
Overall, while the initial technician was friendly, the process was frustrating, with a lack of feedback and delayed responses, especially during a time when we needed our heater the most.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for a total of 24 years, having them at my current home for 8 years and my previous home for 16 years. Overall, my experience with them has been positive. Recently, I had a claim where Intertech Maintenance came out to work on my dishwasher. They replaced the heating element, but the issue wasn't fully resolved as it still doesn't heat properly. I believe the thermostat might need attention, so I plan to call it back in under their 90-day recall policy, which I've used before.
One thing I like about American Home Shield is the efficiency and ease of processing claims. They have always been responsive whenever I reported an issue. I appreciate the cash-out option if we choose not to proceed with a repair, and getting a replacement item has been hassle-free. For instance, when my cooktop couldn't be repaired, they quickly sent a new one directly to my house, and a technician installed it within a couple of days. Their technicians and vendors have always been reliable and I've had no issues with them.

I have been an American Home Shield customer, holding one of their higher-tier contracts at $115 a month. My experience with them began with an issue in my upstairs shower, where the floor and wall grout were not properly installed. When Home Choice Services INC came out to address it, the technician said it required re-grouting and tiling, but they informed me that such work wasn't covered under my contract, nor do they provide tiling services. This was particularly frustrating because AHS didn't suggest alternative solutions that could have resolved the leaking issue without tiling.
Each time I called for service, it cost me an additional $125 just to have a technician visit and assess the problem, and AHS required this payment upfront. They also did not offer a second opinion unless I agreed to pay again. This has happened several times, making it financially draining without any resolution.
While AHS has promptly addressed other issues in the past, the lack of support and suggestions regarding my shower has been disappointing. Furthermore, the language barrier with customer service was an additional challenge. I did share my feedback fully expecting it would be reviewed, but frankly, the overall experience has confounded my expectations. I've had both good and frustrating experiences. As for advice to others considering AHS, I’d suggest gathering all the facts about coverage and costs before committing.

My garage door wouldn't go up, and when I reported the claim, I clarified it wasn't the door itself but the motor. The technician who came out was great; he was professional and honest, explaining that he could fix the motor but that I needed to pay separately for the wheels, as American Home Shield couldn't cover that part.
The repair involved the gear and chain within the motor section of the garage door opener. Now, the garage is functioning well. I'm very satisfied with the service I received, and I'd rate the experience highly, as the technician was prompt and efficient.
I've been with American Home Shield for about four years. Initially, my sister recommended the service. Although I had to pause my membership at one point, I'm pleased to be with them again. What I appreciate most is their responsiveness; they've addressed my calls consistently well.
However, I used to pay almost $100 a month in addition to $100 for service calls, which I found expensive. Now, I've switched to a less costly plan, with a $25 service call fee, which suits me better. While the cost was a downside, the overall experience with American Home Shield has been positive, and I have no significant complaints.

The process of selecting the new appliance was straightforward and went smoothly. If I were to rate American Home Shield, I would give them a 3 out of 5. I chose American Home Shield after my cousin, who’s also a homeowner, recommended it. She explained that if any appliances go out, they'd be covered, so I called and got some quotes. I went ahead and got the package that covers appliances like my refrigerator, hot water heater, and stove. They even offer up to $5000 if my unit goes out, although I’d have to finance the remainder. The only downside is the service charge deductible, which is about $130.
Recently, I had an issue with my hot water tank during a bad snowstorm. The pilot wouldn't stay lit, and I was without hot water for about three weeks before anyone could come out. It took approximately a week before Rock Plumbing LLC finally came to fix it. However, there were issues. They didn’t follow through on cleaning out my septic tank, even though I was promised a complimentary service.
In terms of timeliness, getting someone to address the issue was a bit frustrating. It took them about two days to contact me after my initial request to schedule the visit. I faced delays because I had to call the plumbing service myself to remind them about my claim since I hadn’t heard back from them.
Overall, I'd rate American Home Shield a 4. While their coverage for broken appliances is good, and they are generally reliable, their process can be cumbersome with connecting to the right representatives being time-consuming. Furthermore, the delay in responses affected the convenience of the service. I'd tell friends and family that the service is decent, but they will need to be proactive in following up on claims.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with American Home Shield. I had a plumbing issue where I needed assistance with a leaky faucet. When I called American Home Shield to submit my claim, they sent NW Sundance Services. The plumber, who was great, came to evaluate the issue. However, the problem arose when he informed me that the issue would not be covered by American Home Shield because it was categorized as wear and tear, and supposedly because it was an exterior faucet. The plumbing was within the wall of the home, so I didn't understand why this exemption applied. The plumber initially tried tightening the faucet, resulting in a broken handle which was not my fault. His company's repair cost was quoted at $695, which I found absurd, and I ended up having someone else repair it in 15 minutes for much less.
The customer service experience with American Home Shield was incredibly challenging. It was difficult to understand the representatives due to strong accents, and the process was convoluted. I had to speak with around five or six individuals, including supervisors, to no avail. Each conversation ended without progress, leaving me feeling helpless.
Additionally, I faced issues with my heating system prior to the plumbing incident. The system shut down entirely, and another technician, who was professional, identified the problem, but again, American Home Shield claimed it wasn’t covered. This issue was due to a flue component, which they said was not included in the contract, yet I could not find any mention of it in my "all parts and components" coverage. This led to a two-week ordeal without proper heating, where we resorted to space heaters and our gas fireplace for warmth—a major inconvenience. I got tired of arguing with American Home Shield and I ended up paying to have the system fixed. The replacement part and repair was 370 something dollars.
Both incidents highlight significant coverage gaps and communication barriers. I already shared my dissatisfaction with friends on social media, and I’m canceling American Home Shield.

I had two service experiences with Aurora Appliance Repair Inc. through American Home Shield, one involving a refrigerator compressor and another with a dishwasher. The experience with the dishwasher involved a circulation pump issue. Aurora quickly identified the problem and ordered the necessary part. However, the repair was delayed because the technician was injured, which extended the timeline by another week. Including the time taken for the part to arrive, it was about two to three weeks before it was fixed. The refrigerator repair followed a similar pattern of delay. While I appreciated that both appliances were eventually fixed and are now functioning, the long repair timelines were quite inconvenient. Living without a refrigerator or dishwasher for over a month was quite challenging, and I found myself handwashing dishes.
The service from American Home Shield was good overall, but I wish there was an option to expedite repairs or replace items in cases where the wait for repair becomes lengthy. I would rate American Home Shield somewhere between a 3 to 4 out of 5. My advice to others would be to be aware of potential extended repair times when opting for repairs over replacements on warranty items.

Their service was commendable; they diagnosed the problem swiftly and proactively scheduled a return visit before the parts even arrived, which was quite efficient. I initiated the request online, and found the scheduling process to be prompt, usually within 24 to 36 hours. Impressively, they contacted me over a holiday weekend to arrange a visit.
On both occasions, ACT Appliance resolved the issues satisfactorily. Although there was a slight delay due to ordering parts, I still felt the overall turnaround was timely. In terms of American Home Shield, I've noticed that the costs have been rising annually since I started using their services about four to five years ago. Both the monthly fees and vendor charges have increased, which might be a concern given the current financial climate.

My experience with American Home Shield has been mixed. Recently, I had a service claim with Pronto Plumbing LLC, who came out to replace a seal under the sink in my bathroom. Unfortunately, I wasn’t present at the time; my stepson was home and informed me about the repair. I usually submit claims online, and I find their website user-friendly. It's straightforward to navigate, and I appreciate that part of their service.
However, there were issues with the appointment timing. The contractor arrived much earlier than scheduled, without notifying me, which was inconvenient. By the time I reached home, they had already left. Although the issue seems resolved and everything is functioning normally now, I feel the overall service has declined over the years.
Previously, I was a long-time customer of American Home Shield, but I find that now they pick and choose what can be claimed. Many repairs are so minor that I could manage them myself. For example, I once paid a $125 service call for a repair that involved a mere 10-cent washer. Additionally, I had a roof leak fixed with silicon instead of proper roofing tar, which I know won't hold up under the sun for long.
I believe the ease of scheduling through the website is the best aspect of their service now. However, the coverage for minor repairs doesn't seem to justify the cost. In many cases, it feels like I'm losing money because the repairs can be done more efficiently on my own. Also, the wait times for services, sometimes up to a week, are unreasonable for simple issues.
Overall, while the website is convenient, American Home Shield's coverage and value for money have diminished. I would rate them a 2, based on my recent experiences.

I had an issue with my garbage disposal and electrical circuit. Initially, the technician that AHS sent failed to communicate that the problem was with the circuit breaker, not the disposal itself. After reaching out to AHS to clarify, they rectified the situation quickly. The second tech came out the next day and fixed it. I’ve had American Home Shield for several years, and although there was a small hiccup, their customer service and the professionalism of their vendors have always been reliable.

AHS coverage is Inferior and well-known for wrongful denial of maintenance coverage. Recently, I placed a service order for the light bulb for my Viking refrigerator and Viking Microwave. Immediately, my claim was denied, saying the exclusion criteria of "light bulbs were not covered." When I placed the service order, a representative told me all refrigerator parts were covered. It is ceiling light bulbs which are not covered. Representatives appeared to waste my time by apologizing frequently and putting the phone on hold for review. Representatives are also highly trained to scam people. After wrongfully denying coverage, I was told that another vendor could do the diagnostic with a second service charge/fee if I wanted a second opinion. Why do I need a second opinion if the refrigerator light bulb is not covered?
I give zero stars for the review, and I think people should not give business to AHS due to wrongful denials and scamming customers with service charges. I never offer bad reviews, but this company blew my mind, and I cannot stop speaking the truth.

I had a positive experience with American Home Shield. We had a backup in the kitchen sink, and I submitted a claim online. They called us within minutes, and the problem was resolved the same day. The contractor from Integrity Plumbing was excellent and explained they would use a snake to fix the issue. Everything is still functioning well.
I've been with AHS for about two years, and I chose them after seeing good reviews and having used their service before. The process is quick, which is what I like most about them. I'm satisfied with their customer service, the service received, the pricing, and their online tools. Overall, I would recommend AHS to a friend.

I recently had an issue with a plumbing claim through American Home Shield. The first vendor they sent tried to get me to pay them out-of-pocket, on top of being paid by American Home Shield. When I refused, the vendor said they would come for the repair but then just didn’t show up. Eventually, 1-800-Plumber responded to the claim and came out to fix my toilet successfully.
I’ve been with AHS for about 8 years now, and while I generally appreciate their service, I’ve had a couple of issues with vendors trying to get double payment or not being reliable. I don't feel comfortable having those vendors in my home again, and I think AHS could improve by listening more to their customers' concerns about vendor experiences. Overall, I’d rate my experience with them as a 4 out of 5.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield since around 1994. They've consistently provided peace of mind, especially after becoming a widow, knowing that repairs and maintenance are covered. One night, a loud noise woke me up, something like an explosion. I called Air Max, whom I've trusted since the 90s, and they conducted a thorough inspection. They couldn't find the source of the noise but kept the ticket open just in case. Thankfully, there haven't been any issues since.
The process of submitting claims with American Home Shield is generally easy, though there was one occasion with some difficulty. I mostly call them to submit claims, and wait times are usually around 5 minutes. I noticed improvements in customer service, especially when I could request specific contractors like Air Max without any issues.
I value the security the service provides, ensuring a worry-free experience with home appliances. While I've had good experiences overall, the one area for improvement is the annual price increase, which can be a bit challenging on a widow’s budget. I recommend American Home Shield to friends as a reliable service that ensures repairs are taken care of without incurring high costs.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I sent in a claim online when I had a stopped-up drainage. The process was kind of weird. You didn't have a check box that said, "Hey, my drain is clogged." I had to check something else. But as soon as I submitted it, we got the company name who was coming out. The service was good. They charged us more money. But they were pretty upfront about it. The service charge is $100 and they said, "Well, when we have to remove the toilet, that's not really covered." So, the whole thing costs $400. That would have been the cost if I didn't have American Home Shield. So, that was disappointing. But that's what it was. They fixed the problem. They did a good job.

I recently had a mixed experience with American Home Shield regarding a repair service for my dishwasher. The initial issue was that the dishwasher wasn't dispensing rinse aid and was skipping cycles. Filing the claim with American Home Shield was quite straightforward, but the process that followed was less than ideal.
Anderson Appliance and Repair, the company initially sent out for the diagnosis, was excellent. They were professional and efficient, easily diagnosing the problem. However, they were not responsible for the actual replacement of the dishwasher. Instead, American Home Shield contracts another company for installations.
Unfortunately, the technicians who came to install the new dishwasher were not properly skilled. They didn't turn off the water supply before starting, causing a flood in my kitchen, which I had to deal with despite being in recovery from knee surgery. It was a frustrating experience, and I had to ask them to leave before contacting American Home Shield to request a different contractor.
After 14 years with American Home Shield, I can say the service has its conveniences, particularly if you've just purchased a home with a warranty included in the sale. However, the quality of contractors can be hit or miss. Sometimes, I'm compelled to manage the repair process myself, which can be burdensome, especially for someone unfamiliar with appliances. While Anderson Appliance's service was exemplary, American Home Shield must improve their selection and vetting process for contractors to avoid sending out underqualified personnel.
Overall, I'd rate their customer service a 4 out of 5, coverage also a 4, their pricing a 2, and their online tools a 3. Despite these issues, I like the company and hope for an improvement in contractor quality.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

I recently dealt with American Home Shield regarding a persistent issue with my washer. It wouldn't drain water properly, leaving clothes soaked even after extended spin cycles. This issue had been ongoing for years, with various technicians from HSA coming out only to say that it wasn't showing any error codes or suggesting I was overloading the machine. Frustratingly, the problem worsened over time, leading to a significant smell from stagnant water, and it took a technician from JNK HAC LLC to finally diagnose that the drain pump wasn't functioning.
While the latest technician solved the issue by replacing the drain pump, my overall experience with American Home Shield has been mixed. On a scale of 1 to 5, I'd rate them a 3.5. The young and less experienced technicians provided in the past failed to resolve the problem, which speaks to a possible need for better vetting and training of contractors.
Moreover, the service experience has been subpar ever since American Home Shield moved customer service operations overseas. Interactions with representatives who read from scripts and struggle with English comprehension have made resolution processes cumbersome and lengthy. For instance, getting credited for an overcharge took nearly nine months of persistent effort, during which I encountered repeated scripted responses and unhelpful interactions.
Despite these significant frustrations and the feeling that customer service has declined, I stay with American Home Shield for their comprehensive coverage, which is crucial for my single-income household. However, they need to work on improving their customer service and consider rewarding long-term customers like myself who've been with them for over 20 years, especially since I've recommended their services to others in the past.
Overall, while my recent claim was eventually resolved, the journey to get there was unnecessarily difficult, and the company's current customer service approach leaves much to be desired.
We appreciate your business and value your feedback. If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

I had a mixed experience with American Home Shield. Initially, when I had issues with my washing machine, it took them about four months to resolve it. Throughout this period, repair people came by, acknowledging the machine couldn't be fixed, yet were instructed to attempt repairs, which led to multiple rescheduled appointments. I took off work five times, waiting in vain for someone to show up, while American Home Shield pointed fingers at the vendor. Their customer service was inadequate, with no real means to escalate the issue or get clear answers. As a result, I spent more money at laundromats than the cost of a new washing machine during this lengthy process.
Once the washing machine ordeal was over, things improved significantly with other services. We used American Home Shield for plumbing, electrical work, and refrigerator repairs, and those experiences were much better. The plumbing service, particularly, was very efficient and swift. It's clear that their service quality varies depending on the issue and the vendor they use. It’s important to be aware that while some services are prompt and reliable, others can be frustratingly slow and disorganized.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for about 14 years. Recently, I encountered a rather frustrating experience. My hot water heater needed replacement because, according to my condominium corporation, once they reach 10 years, they must be replaced due to the risk of rusting and flooding. His and Hers Plumbing evaluated it and agreed, but after contacting American Home Shield to make a claim, the claim was denied because no visible defect could be identified at that moment. This forced me to handle the issue myself and incur the costs of a new heater. When a second plumber assessed it, they confirmed it was filled with calcium and at risk of failure. This experience with American Home Shield was truly disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend their service based on this incident. Other than this, previous interactions with them have been satisfactory, but this recent situation has really affected my view of the company.

I recommend a lot of people to American Home Shield. I told them that it's a good service. However, If your AC broke on a Friday, nothing will happen until Monday the next week because it's the company policy. They don't wanna pay extra. I'm sure there are emergency services out there. If you are in an 85-degree weather and your AC broke down and have to wait three days for someone to come and look at it, that's not a pleasant situation. Same thing with the heater. That's the problem.
The dryer stopped working. It had something to do with the door or switch. The washer made a very strange noise like it was breaking in half. When you spin, and it will stop, you will hear a loud cracking noise that will go when it goes into the cycle. It was not normal. The contractor ordered parts and came back. They were timely. They said they would be there at 10 o'clock, they came in at 10 o'clock sharp. And I was very pleased with their communication.

I've had American Home Shield for about three years, and my experience has been mixed. They recently sent someone for an issue with my 20-year-old refrigerator. The freezer stopped working, along with the ice maker. According to my contract, if an appliance can't be repaired, it should be replaced with an equivalent value. They mailed me the door and he came out and installed it, but it didn't have the electronic device. He put the board from the old door in the new door and the problem still existed because they never replaced the parts. He had to then reorder the motherboard that goes into the door and came out in December and installed that but it still was not working.
He though he just needed to order the whole new unit and he called American Home Shield. AHS told him to not do it and they would just get me a new microwave. Joseph left and he didn't come back out after that. AHS gave me a Lowe's gift card and I found the same exact microwave that I wanted. I had to pay the difference, though, and I had to pay for the installation. I didn't think I should have. I'm now waiting for the microwave to come in. My double oven went out last July. I’m still waiting for compensation because it is unrepairable. AHS sent a rebuilt part that never worked and was unusable, yet they have deducted the cost of that part from my reimbursable amount and have been unyielding in escalating it making the situation a stalemate.
ADDITIONALLY, within the four accounts we have, they been double billing me. I’ve sent a documentation from my bank and even created a spreadsheet showing the multiple accounts and double billed items, which I sent to Amy. It will take on average a month to get something fixed and when it can't be fixed they refuse to pay out. They just want to keep sending someone else out. They will not work with you at all to make you happy. They simply don't care. I Put a claim in for my dryer and it took the guy 3 trips and it still wasn't fixed - the main problem is he told the warranty company that it was fixed so they closed the claim out refusing to do anything else about it. Had to buy a new dryer out of pocket.
Not to mention the guy left a giant mess in the basement and didn't even attempt clean anything up. Had a minor plumbing issue - they sent out 3 different people and no one could fix it. I called my neighborhood plumber and the guy was here 15 min and it was fixed - of course out of pocket. They hire incompetent contractors. So it's not even worth it. I recently dealt with a claim through American Home Shield involving Mile High Plumbing. Initially, there was some confusion as Mile High Plumbing was dispatched instead of the previous company that had incorrectly completed a repair. Mile High Plumbing came over and confirmed that the initial repair was indeed inadequate. After some follow-up, the original plumber returned to fix the issue properly. The whole process took longer than expected, but it was ultimately resolved, and the related damage to the drywall was repaired.
While I appreciated Mile High's confirmation of the issue, I was frustrated that the initial repair wasn't done correctly, which resulted in additional damage to my home. We have been using American Home Shield for many years. They seem to fix the SMALL THINGS but when it came to fixing our heat furnace/central air unit, THEY HAVE NOT. We have been without heat since November 2024. THAT IS 4 MONTHS IN THE DEAD OF WINTER. I have call and complained. I have asked to speak to a manager to see if the process can be pushed. They have NEVER called me back, they do not care but yet they still keep taking my money out of my account every month. Some nights have gotten down to 10 degrees or lower.
When I call they give me a different excuse every time. They at first said I could get a brand new heating and air unit for almost $6,000 which is money I don't have laying around. According to their contract they will pay $5000 for heat unit and $5000 for air. To me that is $10,000, which means they should have replaced our unit at no charge. When I complained again they changed the heating and air company, which came out and said now there is mold in the outside unit and they will charge $1000 to clean that then order the part.
When I called American Home Shield to see what happened with our claim that has been ongoing since 11-24, they said "we canceled the claim until you pay the cleaning of the mold because we do not cover that in our contract." It is an outside unit, in the elements, the mold so they say, the first company mentioned NOTHING ABOUT IT is not inside my house. They canceled the claim. Didn't tell me, said I can buy a new unit. Now it went up to almost $12,000. Where is their $10,000 they are supposed to deduct.
I did talk to a customer service representative who said I in fact was reading the contract correctly about them allowing me $10,000 toward a new unit. I am appalled that they have left me and my family without heat this whole winter without a care for our wellbeing. They only want the monthly fee. Do not use American Home Shield.... ever!!!! In my opinion they should put in a new furnace for us for making us be without heat from 11-24 to current february 18, 2025. 4 months now without heat!!!!

It was good for a few days. But the 7th of December water came down from the ceiling of the second level. We looked at the sink again and water came out. I had to call AHS again to see if someone could come back out to take a look at my sink again. I assumed it would be completely fixed. They sent the same technician. They called me the next day when I reached out to AHS to pay the visit. Even the rep from AHS tried to reach out to them. She said, “They’re not picking up. I’m gonna have to try again. But until then, you’ll most likely receive a text or an email or something along those lines about them coming back out to your residence.”
I received a call from KG Winston and they said, “If he would come back what day or time do you want to do it?” They wanted me to do it the next day, but I said I couldn’t because I would not get home almost 5:00. They said that the next time that they could do it was on Monday, and that was Monday, the 13th, from 5:00 to 6:00. They had the same tech come out. It was repaired that time around. He was knowledgeable and helped me a lot.

I have been using American Home Shield for about 3 to 4 years now. I've had a mixed experience with their service. On the positive side, their online portal is very convenient and the turnaround time is good, but when it comes to plumbing, they'd come out, assess, and then come back, which hurts because plumbing is a huge issue. Also, with repairs, I often end up paying out of pocket. This extra expense is my biggest issue with them as they tend to find modifications or problems not covered under the warranty. Whenever Mr. Rooter Plumbing comes out, they assess the problem first and return to complete the repairs. If there's an issue with the repairs they charged for, they come back to fix it without extra charge, which is a relief. However, I've had instances where I've paid $100 for a visit only to be told that they can't do anything—which is not great.

I recently had a plumbing issue with my garbage disposal, which wasn't turning on. To address this, I contacted American Home Shield and had a positive experience speaking with a live representative. They were helpful, and my overall experience with them has always been good.
Accent Plumbing Inc. was the company sent by American Home Shield to handle the repair. I was particularly pleased that they arrived on time, diagnosed the problem efficiently, and fixed it quickly. Their punctuality and professionalism were impressive, especially given the common experience of service providers showing up at the last minute within their appointment window.
Currently, my garbage disposal is functioning well, although I haven't been able to use it much recently due to an evacuation caused by fires in the Altadena, California area. We won't be able to return to our home until the repairs are complete, which may take between six months to a year.
I would rate American Home Shield a 5, and I've already recommended their services to my coworkers and friends. However, my main concern lies with their process of sending technicians. In the past, they sent inadequate technicians for my refrigerator issues. Despite repeatedly sending different technicians since September, the problem persisted because none were licensed to replace the compressor. Only after a long wait did they find someone qualified, but then the fires hit, and now we have to wait even longer without a working refrigerator.
To improve their service, I suggest that American Home Shield ensures their technicians are fully qualified to handle specific repairs before dispatching them. This would prevent unnecessary delays and inconvenience for customers.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for over five years, possibly up to eight. Recently, I faced an issue with the compensation for a ceiling fan replacement. The check I was supposed to receive from Whitney Electrical was much less than expected. My previous fan was a high-quality model in our master bedroom with three lights and globes. I gathered pictures from Home Depot of similar models to show that it should have been more expensive than the $70-80 they offered, as I spent $160 to get a comparable replacement. The technician mentioned that the company might cover up to $129, which seemed fair for the fan quality.
Although the technician was efficient and had good service, there was a mix-up with appointment scheduling from the office side, which led to unnecessary delays. Based on this fan replacement experience and the administrative errors, I would rate my overall satisfaction with American Home Shield as a 3 out of 5. Since July of last year, I've been dealing with my refrigerator's ice maker not producing ice and the appliance not defrosting properly, causing it to freeze up and fail to keep my food cool.
The claim process itself with American Home Shield has been straightforward, but I have concerns about the quality of technicians they send. Several technicians visited before the issue was fixed, and I had to put in another claim and pay an additional $125. This was due to the previous technician closing the initial claim without resolving the issue.
One technician finally fixed the problem, but not before I had lost food due to the refrigerator's malfunctions. I was never compensated for the food loss, and while they refunded a deductible, it didn't cover these costs. This prolonged issue was frustrating as I have been paying for the warranty consistently.
The customer service representatives at American Home Shield have been good, professional, and pleasant. However, I found the technicians sent, particularly the ones from Sears, were inadequate. They seemed uncertain of the necessary repairs and often neglected seemingly necessary parts. The last technician, however, was excellent and followed up on the repair, demonstrating professionalism and pride in his work.
My overall experience with American Home Shield has been mixed, and I would rate them a 3 out of 5. Earlier interactions were handled well, but this incident dragged on due to numerous technician visits and operational delays. Despite this, I recommended them to friends based on past experiences, but this situation has since altered my view.
Hi David, I understand your frustration and appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to contact us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can talk more about your experience. Sincerely, Mariah

I have a mixed experience with American Home Shield so far. Recently, I had a garage door issue where it wouldn't open properly. The technician came and replaced some parts on the same day. While he was punctual and professional, the garage door isn’t working as it should yet, requiring me to hold the button continuously to open or close it.
This was my first claim, and while they did attempt the repair, my issue remains unresolved. Another concern was the need to pay for the garage door out of pocket as it wasn't covered, which I wasn’t informed about prior. I suggested getting a detailed booklet to know what's covered.
The customer service representatives were helpful when I submitted my claim over the phone. Even though the service fee is higher than my previous insurance, I don't mind if it means receiving better service, but I would currently rate it as a 4. Although I'm going through a lot due to personal circumstances, I was recommended to American Home Shield by a close friend who had a positive experience, and I’ve heard good things from others too. I'm hopeful I'll also be satisfied eventually.
Hi Marilyn, We’re thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.
