I put in a request for service for my AC unit, which conked out sometime while I was away for work. That was on a Friday. The contractor called me and the earliest they could get out to my place was the following Thursday (6 days later). I am in SC and we are having some bad heat. Over 90 degrees everyday. Not much I can do since AHS picks the contractor and they set the appointment (the end). The tech comes out on Thursday and quickly diagnosis the problem. The fan motor on the outside unit has seized. He says he has to take it back to the office to take the fan blade off and replace the motor. That was at 2:30. At 6:30 I had to contact the tech (who seemingly had no intention of contacting me). He said the office should have called to tell me he had to come back in the morning to replace the fan and motor. He said he would be there by 8:30 am.

I got there at 8:15 am. I was finally able to get in touch with the contractor at 2:45 who had no idea what was going on. No one was coming that Friday, so they scheduled me for sometime between 2 and 7 on Saturday. At 6:40 I texted AHS, tell them what was going on. At 7:50 a different tech showed up who had no idea what had been going on with my AC issues. After seeing there was no motor or fan and calling someone, he realized everything was sitting in the office. He said he would have to come back on Sunday to replace it, sometime between 8 and 10. I was finally able to get in touch with him (notice I have to get in touch with people, no one bothered to call me) at 11. He said the old fan blade was stuck on the old motor (they wanted to use the old fan to save money) and as soon as he got it off and on the new motor he would be over. I contacted him again at 2 and he said he had one more thing to try.

I wrote to him at 5 saying I was giving up and leaving. He said he couldn't get it off and he would need to get a new fan, which would have to wait until Monday. So far, I have missed 2 full days of work and waited around for 3 full days in a house with no ac. The temp inside routinely got up to 92 degrees. I now have to take more time off of work on Monday to again wait for the tech to show up and replace the fan and motor (if he shows up). I put $65 a month for this warranty plus a $75 service fee each time I out in a service request. Right now, it is not worth it at all. And I am not the only person with this kind of experience. I have heard several neighbors say the same thing.

We live in NY and our AC unit turned off in the midst of a heatwave. It was 100 degrees this weekend and the representative Friday at 5pm said that the request would be escalated as an emergency and somebody would call me back by 10pm that night. That was Friday and it is now Sunday and nobody has returned my call. I was lucky that a neighbor helped us out, but the bigger issue is that we are paying for a service that isn't being honored and the sales professionals are terrible in helping. I am writing this as I am still on hold and the call has already taken 48min in the middle of a Sunday when I have a family. I will look to use a different warranty going forward as they obviously do not care about their customers. I have chased them and called multiple times, but have been hung up on and none of the salespeople write down notes, so I need to reiterate the entire story over and over again. I am LIVID!!

This company has taken our money for years, “American Home Shield”, a home warranty company. There are endless posts from people like me who have paid monthly or in advance for a year, and as soon as they have a problem they are treated horribly. The company is hell bent trying to fix things that should just be replaced. They leave us without the appliance for weeks, months with no communication, and we are forced to pay out of pocket for the repair or replacement, which I think is their goal. This is a crime. They need to be shut down. It has spun out of control.

AHS is a scam. They are great for small items but if one of the big ticket items they cover go, they will do anything they can not to cover it. One of the items I had was Central A/C. When the system stopped working they would keep sending companies out to fix but never replace. When the system finally gave out they sent out the first company. Tech comes to the house tell us "System is dead, no fixing this" that he will have his company write a report to AHS for the authorization. AHS calls us, rep tells us the system is not covered because the tech has reported to them that the line set has a leak and it runs through the slab (Floor) because there is no access we don't cover and referred us to read contract. PROBLEM line set does not run through the floor.

When we called the A/C company AHS sent out to ask for an explanation we received no call back. So when we told AHS we took pictures of the line set not going through the floor, they offered to send a second company out. Second company comes out and tells us the same thing, "system is done". Tech takes pictures, reports to us the line set does not go through the floor. He then tells us he will write a report to AHS to get this done.

2 weeks now with no A/C in Florida, no call from AHS. SO we call them, they tell us that the manager of the second A/C company is writing a report, as soon as they get it they will make a decision. The end of the next day they call and say it's not covered, that the manager of the A/C company reported it's a leak in the line set which runs through the ceiling and they cannot access it so it's not covered. First off the tech that came out never pressured tested anything, did not even take his gauges out. So how did he find the leak? He did take a ton of pictures of the A/C unit. Which was totally rotted out due to the the house being 200' from the beach and the salt air.

When AHS called us we complained and told them what the tech had said to us and we don't understand why they would not have that on their report. The rep for AHS said she would ask the company for a more detailed report and call us back. 2-3 days no call back, when we called it seemed the call goes out of country and we get put on hold then call disconnects. This happen about 4 times always at the 20 min mark on hold. During this we had two local companies come out, both report that system is dead and it's not the line set and confirmed that the line set runs through the wall 3" hole into the garage on outside of wall to air handler 100% accessible. With no call backs we had to hire a company to replace the system. We gave one star because there is not an option to give negative stars. STAY AWAY.

    1. When you call AHS to order one of their programs they will be great and I feel will be answered in the U.S.
    2. When you have a problem I feel it goes out of country and good luck, they only follow a script.
    3. They will give you the run around on big ticket items.

    4. They will exhaust you until you move on.

Live in Austin, TX, yesterday AC went out on 100 degree day. Requested service. Now been 20 hours and still no contact from assigned AC repair company? Luckily I was able to get the system back up and running. Cancelled service call. Will be calling local company that will respond to my needs. My contract with AHS is up in 30 days and I do not plan to renew it as the one time I really needed them they FAILED. What's the point of spending several hundred dollars a year for no service? People out there, don't believe the hype, these warranties are a waste of money and are not backed up by legitimate people or promises.

The service of American Home Shield is horrible and beyond. It has been over two weeks our AC is down in peak summer. After diagnosis set up by American Home Shield, they claim that they have not received a response diagnosis report from third party contractor, while our family fries in the heat. After follow up every day in the week, same message communicated without providing a firm date for fixing the issue. After several call attempts, I was asked not to call them, instead they will call me to update, which has not happened in the last week. These behaviors clearly indicate practice of dishonesty, low integrity, and poor customer service. In my opinion this is just an excuse for not getting it done or any intention on fulfilling the promise as in the coverage. I am not going to continue with them and will not recommend anyone either. Big name company, but poor delivery.

My contract term monthly payment posted July 9th (My 12th payment). I called July 18th to inform AHS I would not renew and I wanted my credit card removed from the auto pay. On July 20th I received an email stating I owe cancellations fees. I called to inform AHS that they prematurely cancelled my contract, without my consent and I wanted it reinstated to the already paid for term, however, no one could do that. They informed me to get it reinstated I have to wait 10 business days, 14 days for them to do an investigation.

I have to hope and pray that my toilets or plumbing doesn't back up, pool pump, a/c, hot water heater, etc doesn't break for the next two weeks so my family of 4 can have everyday quality of life amenities. It is already paid for, why would anyone cancel that? Really, how hard is it to reinstate a policy that is already paid for?! Their escalations and management department is completely incompetent, their customer service is complete garbage, and I will not recommend this program to anyone.

My air conditioning stopped working. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the person that came was prompt and knew what he was doing. He quickly identified that the compressor had frozen. He immediately went to a parts house, got a replacement motor, came back, replaced it and the AC came back up. We're in Phoenix, where it's 112 each day, so it didn't recover immediately, but at least the unit was running. Instead of using a number saying it's this hot outside, it all says "Hi". The mechanic told us to be patient, let the unit run and it will catch up with itself and everything will be okay.

The repair has been great but there has been some confusion at the office fo American Home Shield. They said that they tried to run a credit card for the service fee and it was declined. I checked my records and I was told that there was plenty of room on my credit card. It would not have been declined if AHS had submitted it properly. It's also the same card that they have hit for my monthly fees so I don't understand.

I went in to my account and changed to another credit card that they used for the service fee. The next day, I got an emergency email that said I haven't paid my service fee. I called them yesterday and they couldn't give me any answer. I frustratedly said, "Okay. Thank you, goodbye." I have two different contracts with them on two different units and both have had a service this summer for air conditioning so I'm glad they're there and they've done what they promised to do. But I wish they get their act together in the office.

Certain people makes things very easy while other people just give you the runaround, and I'm glad that I've had a good person to work with. Then when something needed an adjustment, the contractors came back again and adjusted a little bit and made it work better. The quality of work done was fine and everything was working correctly. But depending on the contractor, the service is a hit or miss. Some contractors are fantastic and some are not. I went online to file a claim with American Home Shield for the air conditioner that was leaking. They told me it was gonna take about three days and United Air Temp came after about three days. At the moment, it was okay because we weren't living in the home just yet. The contractor was fine but they just weren't responsive when I called back. I had a question because they said that there was some ice in the unit and it had to defrost so they would have to come back out Friday. They told me that they would give me a timeframe on that Friday of what time they would come out but they never gave me a timeframe.

I called that Friday, and they said anywhere between 9 AM and 11 PM at night. I wasn't very happy about the fact that they didn't call me and when I asked about the timeframe, I was given a very wide one. They could not tell me or give me a general idea on when that person was gonna be there. When they said that the gentleman would give me a call 30 minutes prior to coming to my home, I didn't receive a 30-minute call. They just popped up and thank god we were there. I had a question after they left because it seemed like the unit was still leaking and when I called, I couldn't get in touch with anybody and no one gave me a callback. Thankfully, the unit stopped leaking and I hadn't had another problem out of it. Overall, the experience was fine.

It’s very difficult dealing with American Home Shield. My wife and I are questioning whether we will stay with them or not. I called them for a claim. For young people in this generation, everything is online. But the online system is not always up and running. I talked to two different vendors yesterday and I talked to American Home Shield on the line. They were in the Philippines and they said their computer was down. I don’t like to deal online because I like to talk to a real live person.

Austin Heating and Air was my given contractor and this was the second time they've been out. The first time they came out, the technician claimed he fixed the unit but he wasn't really positive about that because he told me that if the unit did the same problem again, I had 60 days to call them back. It was about 40 days and they put a device in there. The unit is blowing hot air again, which is the same problem when the technician initially came out here.

I'm upset with American Home Shield and their process. I don’t like the way they’re doing business. They’re working on all those other stuff like if you went online or if you like the service stuff instead of giving me service. It’s 108 degrees here and we’re talking about online stuff while on the side of the house, my daughter is burning up over there. I called Austin Heating about the issue and they told me that they could not do anything until I contacted American Home Shield.

I contacted American Home Shield and this is the second time I contacted them. Austin Heating and Air will not do anything until they get a purchase order number. That’s their due process so AHS sent them a number. Austin Heating and Air was very good. They expedited and they came out here because it was so hot. They were out here yesterday and they diagnosed the problem. The compressor was not working. They thought that the other device they put in earlier was gonna work but it didn’t. They said that they would contact American Home Shield and they would take the ball and give them an okay to order the compressor.

The issue has not been resolved. I’m in business and I am out of money. I paid AHS the premium and I paid them in advance for the service call for Austin Heating and Air. But my service has been zero. I am frustrated. The first thing about AHS is they outsource their customer service to the Philippines. It takes forever and a day to get them to understand for me to put the claim in in the first place because they don’t have a comprehension of how they do it. They’re not trained properly. It’s a language barrier. If AHS wants to get good customer service, they should have somebody articulate.

My daughter’s been here since last week visiting and the AC has been out. I’m not really happy with American Home Shield because it appears to me that they are trying to do everything that they can to stall or not give the service. I need to know what they are going to do one way or the other. The technician said I would hear from them about when the estimated time of fixing the unit. I’m not really enthused about the heat. I’m 80 years old. Not everyone has a computer to jump online. Some people have no desire to do that. I don’t understand why American Home Shield is not paying people in the U.S. to get better customer service. I would not recommend American Home Shield. In fact, I’ve inquired about another warranty company.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for a dishwasher. It would look like it was running, and then the water would just sit in the bottom of the pan and wouldn't drain. My husband tried everything to fix it. The guy sent out by AHS from Angel Appliances Repair was great. He came in, took a look, and said he had to get a part. He kept me updated with where the part was at and how long to get it. Then he worked really well with our schedule. We're two working adults, so it's important to work with our schedule to get him out there. And he was great. He came after normal business hours, later in the evening, and fixed it. It works now and everything has been great. We couldn't be happier with him.

I had a leaking toilet and the water was not staying in the tank. The people from One Time Plumbing came within a couple of days and fixed it. They were polite, knowledgeable, and professional. They had all the parts and it was a prompt repair. I'm satisfied. However, I was very dissatisfied with the continuous call about the refrigerator that didn't hold temperature. That was very bad experience. The only positive thing was they came right away, like the next day. But the guy wasn't sure what the problem was so he called someone over the phone. They diagnosed and he told me it looked like it was a particular part. He said they were gonna have to order the part and he left. So, I was waiting more than a week, then I called them. They told me they were still waiting for the part. After that, I called at least a few more times and got the same response.

After a month that I was waiting for the part, I called American Home Shield and I explained what was going on. They told me that that company that was here closed the case. I didn't make too much noise about it because after this guy left, after a couple of days without refrigerator, my friends suggested me to defrost it. That was what I did and since then, the refrigerator is working fine. But the company never came back to me with the part, and after a month, I find out that they just closed the case.

American Home Shield's website and phone app are wonderful ways to communicate to let the company know exactly in detail about our problem. I use those to file my claims. Their contractors know exactly how to fix a problem and they explain to me in detail about how to fix something and what not to do next time so I won’t break it. The quality of work is excellent. My most recent claim with AHS was when the ceiling fan in my bedroom was not working. On the whole, I would recommend AHS.

The technician was on time and he looked at all the things that could be wrong because we were having problems with it cutting off. He determined that there was a problem with the circuit breaker. So he checked everything and cleaned out the fan. And then we had to get an electrician out.

Our lights went out downstairs, and the air conditioning unit and the outlets downstairs also went out. I called AHS, and they made the contact with the company and sent me a text and told me what company would be calling me. AHS did very good. They text everything. The tech checked everything with the instrument and found out that it was a fuse that needed to be replaced. So put in a new fuse, and everything is good.

The electrical people were not allowed to work on the air conditioning unit. So, we had to call AHS back and they sent the air conditioning people out to look at that. They told us that they discovered another problem. They said we have a leak in our coils. They had to put a pound of Freon in, which cost us $90. They're supposed to be calling me back because we have to put in a whole other coil unit, but AHS does not cover that and the Freon. The Freon is $90 a pound, and we need six pounds plus we have to pay part for the unit too. It's gonna come up to $875.

At one time, AHS would fix everything, but now, they don’t. We pay the monthly premium, and then we have to pay the service fee, which went up over the years. They used to replace stuff with no problem. But now, they don’t replace stuff without you having to pay something out. In the past, we had a water heater and a washer replaced, and it was no big deal. But the rules have changed over the years. We have to put out whatever it cost to get this thing fixed. But I'm not complaining. It's just that I wasn’t used to the fact that we had to put all this extra money because I thought we were covered. But overall, we've always had a good experience with AHS.

I cannot express how incompetent my case has been. I had an electrical surge that caused my AC unit to fry out. Upon inspection of why the unit was not working it was also discovered that there was a break in the ductwork. AHS sent out the first AC company to review the issue. They diagnosed a fried circuit board and a broken AC duct but stated that in their profession opinion, the duct was pulled down therefore not covered under my plan. I disputed this as no one has been in the attic to pull the duct down. There is photographic proof that the wiring holding the duct to the rafters, which is metal, was corroded and snapped due to the weight.

A second company came out for a second opinion. That was on a Wednesday. It is now Friday and my claim is still under review. I was told that this process takes 24 to 48 hours but it is longer than that now. I was also told that I cannot speak to anyone in the department that is reviewing the claim and that the only communication is from the CSR to them. I was on hold for an hour trying to speak to a manager. When I was able to finally speak to one he was unable to provide answers.

My family and I are in the Texas heat for a total of 2 weeks now (half of that was not AHS responsibility). The fact that this is still being reviewed, it is almost impossible to speak to a manager, and there seems to be no access to the claims review department is unacceptable. I need a resolution. I will give kudos to the team for continuously being apologetic but this becomes old when that's all that they have to offer.

I made a legitimate claim on a broken ac. The tech believed the AC had been broken longer, and diagnosed the problem as a power surge which voided the contract. There was no power surge. No lightning, no tripped breaker. After finally getting them to agree to a second opinion, it took four days to process (still waiting), so no ac for six days and counting.

In April I called AHS to cancel my warranty contract that I had on the house I was selling. I told them I was closing on the 30th and no longer required coverage starting in May. They said they cancelled my contract and removed my payment details so it wouldn’t auto draw, and I didn’t have anything to worry about anymore. In May I received a bill in the mail from AHS for a monthly contract payment being past due. I immediately contacted them about the bill and informed them that I had called in April and cancelled the contract. The individual on the phone told me that the amount due was for the month of April and that they bill for coverage at the end of the month. She also stated that since I had a balance due that the contract hadn’t been fully closed out until it was paid. That didn’t sound right to me, but since I was unsure I went ahead and paid the fee.

In June I received another past due notice in the mail. This time instead of calling first, I logged on to my account to see what was going on. There I discovered I had a past due monthly fee and a past due cancellation fee. A cancellation fee that I was not informed that I would be getting in the two previous phone calls I made. I contacted customer service again, and after having to explain the situation to the guy I spoke to three times, he said that he had cancelled out the monthly fee and all I had left to pay was the cancellation fee. I requested that since I already paid for the month of May even though I cancelled in April that the May payment be considered my cancellation fee. He stated that he up channeled my request to whoever handles those types of billing concerns and that he would call me back when he had an answer.

He called me back about 30 minutes later and said it was approved that the May payment be considered my cancellation fee and that everything had been annotated in my account and the cancellation fee removed. Tonight (July 19) I received an email from AHS stating that I had a cancellation fee 30 days past due. I should not have to call a company four times about cancelling a contract that I was informed was month to month. I was told I could cancel at any time as long as it was before the first when the month gets billed. Clearly the individuals working the customer service have not received proper training on their account system.

Updated on 11/13/2019: I paid them to have someone come fix my ac. They sent someone out and said it wasn’t covered due to not normal wear and tear. The inside vent needed cleaning. Then it does the same thing. They send someone else out and I’m told the last person left my outside unit opened and messed something up and they would not touch that. I need to call the office and have them come back out to fix. I call them and they come out and say nothing is wrong with it and it’s the inside unit and needs to be replaced. Going back and forth with them I finally canceled my service and my nephew fixed it himself. Next thing I know they took money out of my account without my authorization. When I called them they said, "You canceled and that’s the fee and you were told." NO I WAS NOT TOLD. They said, "Well it was on your contract." The worst customer service ever. Customer beware.

Original Review: I had a company come out and unfortunately did not do the job they were supposed to do even after I had to pay $840 for Freon to be put into the system. They sent a second company out because it still wasn’t working and they determined the whole unit needed to be replaced. American Home Shield decided they were not going to cover any of it. I would not recommend this company to anybody. You spend $50 a month plus $100 for somebody to come out and look at it and all you get is shafted in the end. Shame on them.

He took care of everything.

We filed a claim with AHS three times this year and so far they have been pretty good. The only issue I have occasionally is we’ve had the air conditioner go out and it took about a week before they could send somebody out. It would be great if there was an after-hour thing where they could send somebody out, but I understand. It‘s just one of those deals. We dealt with it, so it was okay.

Then he came out again and the part that he ordered wasn't actually what he needed to fix the dishwasher. Fortunately enough, he had the part in the truck to get the dishwasher to work.

Then, we had a heat and air condition issue. I was told I had to wait a week and thought it was unacceptable. I called AHS and the rep said they could get A1 Appliance Repair out here. I looked them up on Google and they had 3 stars and very few good reviews. They were an appliance repair company and I didn't want them coming out. We had a lot of things break down at one time. Our two air conditioners, upstairs and downstairs, both of them broke at the same time. The very first people that AHS sent had been here for the last three years where we’ve had a leak supposedly. Every year they fixed it, every year they come back. This time, they came back and they claimed that one unit needed an evaporator coil for $1,700, and the other one needed a compressor for $900. The one that supposedly needed the compressor, we asked for a second opinion. And the second opinion came out, which was Fast Response. They came out, and the first floor, they fixed for a $15 item. That’s all that was wrong. And within an hour, our house was cooling.

Somewhere, the ball got dropped, nobody ever came back for the second unit on the second floor. So, where our bedrooms are, we literally could not sleep there. I just had surgery. We had to sleep on the first floor, on the couch, for two straight weeks. And when I would call AHS, I couldn’t call during the middle of the day ‘cause then they’d just put me on hold forever. But then, finally, I would get up every morning, call American Home Shield, ask them what was going on. I got one runaround after another. They would never let me speak to a supervisor as I requested. They just kept giving me a runaround, “Oh, this is this, and this is one is coming.” After I asked for the second opinion, it still never got scheduled.

So, I called and then they finally sent someone back from Fast Response. This young lady found the leak and fixed it. It was leaking, so we did have to pay for the refrigerant. But that went from $1,700 to $500. The first company is a racket. They sent me an email telling me, “We can fix everything but it’ll be over $2,500, because none of this is covered by American Home Shield.” Both times, one was fixed for $15, which AHS paid, and the other one was fixed for $500 because I had leaking refrigerant, and guaranteed for a year. But that was a three-week nightmare, trying to get that done.

We had a friend who was in air conditioning. And when we told him about an evaporator coil costs $1,700, he said it's highway robbery. He said there’s no way. And then the compressor being $900, I had googled it. But everything that they were charging us for, had we paid it, it was a ridiculous amount. Usually, everything got fixed. They've always repaired or replaced or done whatever it is that needs to be done. I have recommended AHS to friends. I don’t know what happened. But my big thing with American Home Shield is, what if the guy who fixed it for $15, went in and got a part and said, “the part was $250.” We wouldn’t know. So, he was honest enough to say the part is only $15, went in and got it fixed. But he could have charged us $250.

I detected a difference in the service of AHS. I don’t know if they changed hands or what happened, but their service is not what it used to be. We've been members for years. My husband would call and he would be able to get somebody. And they would get out here right away. We got people that seem to be fair and do the job as well. But all of a sudden, now, everything is not covered.

We went without our main refrigerator for over a week on the first floor and I just had a knee surgery. And my husband had to go and get everything I needed out of the refrigerator all day because I couldn’t go up and down the steps. So, we’re thinking maybe we’re putting in so many claims and so forth. And I can’t say that in the past that that’s ever been a problem ‘cause we didn’t have a 20-year old house and 20-year old appliances.

But, even when I call, I just see a difference. They just kept on reading me a script and I get so frustrated that I’m like, “Don’t read that script to me again, please. Just listen to what I am saying. And all I’m asking you is let me speak to a supervisor.” And they just keep on saying, “Well, we know it’s inconvenient and blah, blah, blah.” And I’m like, “I really don’t want to curse at you ‘cause I know you’re trying to do your job, but let me speak to a supervisor.” One time, they finally gave me a supervisor but it didn’t do any good.

The only other problem I have is I’m waiting on a new contract because my old contract came out. It just started in July and it left off three of my major appliances. And that was my two air conditioners, the refrigerator, something else. But I called and they said that there was an oversight, and they’re supposed to send me a new contract.

But AHS came through. It wasn’t their fault that I ended up with shikesters. I just think that AHS probably needs to have a way of checking their people ‘cause when I just got on Google, Yelp and on the Better Business Bureau and checked this particular group, there wasn’t a good word about them. There was one good review out of 12. I think that some of the people they're using now are not honest. But when our refrigerator broke, that went fine. They sent somebody out and they fixed it and no problems at all. Neace Plumbing, with the water tank, that was good too. We had no problem with them.

The first time I called American Home Shield when my air conditioning had gone out, they sent out Total Air Care and it was fixed within a day or so. It was wonderful. But it went out again about two weeks later, and American Home Shield was going to send out a different company. This was on a Monday, and the company said that they would not be able to come out until Friday. It was the hottest week of the year thus far in Florida, so I told them that was not gonna work.

I called back American Home Shield and told them that it was sort of an emergency situation because I take care of my granddaughter who is an infant and she was running a fever, and this was not a good situation. American Home Shield said they would see if they could get the company out tomorrow. So, we had a callback from Total Air Care on Tuesday saying that they wouldn’t be out until Thursday. But I told them no, and we ended up taking care of the problem ourselves. No one ever came out, but American Home Shield still charged us $100. I was not really happy with the situation.

My claims in the past have gone well for the most part. We usually have good service from American Home Shield, so this is a big disappointment. If you have a warranty company helping you take care of your appliances who you're paying monthly, then you should get better service. But the customer service at American Home Shield was horrible. And then on top of that, you’re supposed to pay $100 per the company that comes out, and that covers the cost.

I really appreciate American Home Shield. When the first company came, we showed the guy the leaking of the pipe but he insisted it’s something like maintenance. He told me it’s too complicated for him to repair and he’s gonna report to AHS but eventually, he didn’t. I reported this issue to AHS and they told me I could request a second opinion. I did that and they didn’t charge me anything. We set up a second opinion and Plumbers Inc. came. They saw that the leaking caused our ceiling damage and there was a lot of moisture on the first floor. Our body spray is a little bit unique, it’s not very common in the market, they told me that they had no idea how to fix the leaking until they talk to the manufacturer. They contacted the manufacturer of the Kohler and got the right instruction. They changed something inside the pipe of the body spray and then it stopped. Everything is working okay now. I'm very satisfied overall.

American Home Shield got back to me the next day. The contractor they sent was very professional. They found that they didn't have the part that they needed. They went to the warehouse early to get it and they were back within about four hours and finished the job up the same day.

The sink was not draining. So, I called American Home Shield up, and a service guy came out and saw the problem. I was happy. He explained to me what he was gonna do and what the problem was. The stopper was down too low, and it was backing up stuff in the drain. So, they cleaned it out and they adjusted the stopper and everything's great. Submitting claims with American Home Shield is easy. You call up, you tell them the problem that you have, you gotta arrange to pay the $100 fee, and they show up and solve the problem.

The AC just quit, and it was 99 degrees. It's an older air conditioner, and I've been in town for nine years and I've had to fix it about every two or three years, and it's always been the same thing. It's always been the switch. And I thought that was what it was this time. But the outside AC didn't come on, and I called American Home Shield and I was told it was gonna be three days and that was miserable. But they did call to confirm ahead of time. And the guy who came out was very nice, very helpful and he tested it and said it was the switch. He replaced it in 15 minutes and it was awesome. And that made everything in the world and it only cost me $125. I've been with American Home Shield for over two years now, and I try not to submit a claim unless I have to. Even little things break in homes and you never know how much it's gonna cost anymore. So it's worth it.

Two years ago, I signed up for American Home Shield through my daughter because she has it, and she has a much bigger house and she's working. I'm retired and I'm on social security. But it makes all the difference in the world because you never know how much things are gonna cost anymore. And American Home Shield responds very quickly, so I know what to expect. And I end up finding companies that I wouldn't normally find, and you don't get, "Well, it's gonna be this. But then, we gotta go buy a part."

I've been in the house nine years, and I've only called in three times so far in two years. And I was the only house on the street in this HOA. My automatic garage door didn't work, and I've never had an automatic garage door in my life. And when it got to where it was starting to stick and I was getting older and it was getting difficult to open my garage door, I called American Home Shield. A guy came out, and it took him a week to fix it. But he troubleshot it, I paid extra because he replaced the rollers, and he gave me a 10-year warranty. He was so nice.

Both of the guys that have come out in the last six months have said that American Home Shield is the best warranty. So they talked about how good they were, and I told them that it is so important as a homeowner, if you have repairs that you know what to expect, and when you get people out here, they're gonna do the right things. Other than that, I had somebody and it irritated the hell out of me. My kitchen light broke, and I tried to fix it, and I couldn't even replace the bulbs. And the guy came out and he was a electrician. Electricians are not cheap. And he came out and he spent hours here. This is American Home Shield also. He had to pull the whole light out of the kitchen ceiling. He had to replace the ballast. He said it was the ballast. He said it wasn't even the light. And the only problem is the ballast is going out again. So I don't know if it's under warranty of if I should call it in again.

I recommend American Home Shield all the time. When I call, I get a representative from American Home Shield that explains to me when they're gonna respond, how they're gonna respond, and who's gonna call me, and this and that, and I get email updates. And I meet people that are local and that are in my area, so I get business cards from companies they would be recommending. And if I have something else I wanna do with them, they're there. I can call and I can get quotes. So AHS end up sending people to do an excellent job that educate me as to what repairs and what they can do, and it really helps a lot. And being retired and on social security, it makes all the difference in the world when you can fix your house at a reasonable cost. It's worth every penny of it.

I requested a service call on my air conditioner on 27 June, 2019. At that time $125.00 was deducted from my bank for the service as agreed to in my contract. AHS sent a message telling who was to repair my air conditioner and stated that I would hear from this contact within 24 hours. When I was not contacted within the specified time I call the contact. I was told that the repairman was on a job and would contact me the following morning to schedule the repair. After not hearing from them on July 1, 2019 I contacted AHS for assistance. I was told by Paul that Ahs would contact the repairman.

When I had not been contacted on July 2, 2019, I again contacted Ahs and was told that an Email would be sent to the repairman. On July 3, 2019 I again contacted AHS. With 90 plus temperatures and heat indices over 100 I needed some relief. I was then told that AHS did not have anyone in my area, and that I was authorized to find my own repairman and would be reimbursed for the service. I sent an Email detailing what I had to do to complete the job. At this time another $125.00 was taken from my bank account for the repair that had still not been completed.

I contacted a repair company that agreed to repair my air conditioner in accordance with ASH’s specifications. When the air conditioner was repaired, I forwarded the required documentation to AHS and received an Email confirming the receipt. After waiting 2 weeks for my refund, I went on line to check the status only to find out that AHS was saying I was late in paying the $125.00 service charge and my account was in jeopardy of cancellation. After yet another long phone conversation with AHS, I was refunded $125.00 and was told that the pending charge would be removed. I was also told at this time that my refund of $350.00 that I had to pay the repairman was under review and did not know when I would receive it. I don’t understand why a repair that was approved prior to the work being done and the required documentation was forwarded had to be reviewed.

The contractor we were assigned to canceled on us a couple of times. Initially, I canceled on our contractor because I read some bad reviews online with the Better Business Bureau. But they ended up coming out and they did a good job. They could have done as good as they could do. You never know what's gonna happen in the future though. No one could promise that the problem was totally resolved. But I'm not seeing any dripping. Overall, American Home Shield tried but I wasn't as impressed with all the vendors they choose. They're okay, but they're not the best vendors. However, I can understand AHS' business model.

Updated on 01/25/2020: Had AHS plumbing contractors to my home 3 times for basic plumbing issue (still hot fixed) and 3 times for HVAC issue (finally fixed). HVAC finally fixed after I hired a private technician to diagnose the problem and provided the AHS contractor with the paperwork. 2 of the contractors tried to make me purchase a $200 maintenance - which I turned down as I hire another company to do annual maintenance. Another told me he would come back for the repair.

After not hearing from them for 3 days I called the company and their report was that they could not fit in my attic to perform the repair and had to "come in through the roof" - which isnt a covered expense. I offered to send pictures that would show the size of my attic to help prove that their contractor was a thief and totally full of it... They declined and sent out a new contractor who fixed the HVAC no problem. It took 3 contractors and 3 weeks to get it done correctly - plus the out of pocket expense of hiring a trusted technician for my own personal diagnose because I couldn't trust the AHS teams. 3 weeks without heat in January was just awesome! if you use this company prepare to fight them every inch of the way - if you can actually ever get anyone on e the phone and that includes AHS and even more so their team of contractors.

Original Review: Can only talk to customer service in Philippines w/ poor language skills. Required to wait 1 week to even get a contractor to come to my home. Not good when AC is broke and you lie in SoCal heat. Time to find a new HOW company.

They give me a contractor's name and number, I call and leave a message. They don't call back. I call AHS again (each time I call I am on hold No Less than 20 minutes). They give me another contractor, I leave a message, they call back within a day. The contractor comes to my house and diagnose the problem. They tell me they have to get it approved by AHS and the part needs to be ordered, that it should be 3 to 5 days. 5 days go by. I put in several calls to the contractor. No response! Again I call AHS, they try to call the contractor while I am on hold, no answer. This is about 10 days no a/c and it's hot and I have young children and a child with asthma.

AHS tells me they will call me back after they research this. They call me back and tell me the contractor is waiting on the part and the contractor said it will be an additional $390.00 out of my pocket. (I paid $138.00) when they walked in to my house and I pay my monthly charge of $70.00. I ask what it's for. They tell me an access charge to get to the part???? I am confused by this, nothing is near the unit. They tell me to call the contractor. The same contractor that I can't reach. I call and leave a message. The woman calls me back and tells me that they needed an extra part (a flute and that to access the blower motor they must take apart the entire unit and this is what the charge is for). I am skeptical but It's already almost 2 weeks later and I already put out money so I agree on this extra charge even though I think it's a SCAM. The lady in the office said the part will be in on Monday she will call to schedule me at that point. Nothing!!!!

I call her and leave a message telling her I am calling AHS and that I will be leaving a bad review! She texts me...'the part isn't in.' Then she calls me to tell me the part isn't in and if I leave a bad review she will call her attorney and sue me!!!! Is this a joke???? Then she (contractor) hangs up on me!!! Now I am so annoyed I call Home Shield to tell them all that is going on, each time you call you wait on hold before someone answers then I have to explain the entire thing to them, they put me on hold to speak with their manager, they tell me and I get disconnected!!! This happens 3 times! I am furious now! The last time I call I tell them, "Do not put me on hold. I want to speak to a supervisor!!!" They would not give me a supervisor but they tell me someone will call me back with a resolution. No callback... No resolution!

I call my own contractor that I found on my own, he came in, looked at the unit, went to a supply house, bought the motor, installed it and charged me $300.00 total! No extra parts or work was needed so that other contractor that AHS sent was definitely scamming me. I call AHS to reimburse me for this since they could NOT get the job done and they told me "since I called my own contractor without them authorizing it that they would not reimburse me"!! I said, "Ok then you can cancel my plan as of right now," they argued with me and told me it's $70.00 administrative fee to cancel! I ask them who is in charge of this place that I would like to write to them regarding this entire nightmare, their response is "we do not know"! This is awful! I do not recommend this company at all.

American Home Shield's website was very good. The issue was with the contractor, AZ. I do not think highly of them. First of all, the guy came in and he said he cleaned out the drain. He said that it was clogged. From my experience as a homeowner with air conditioners, I didn't understand that because if the drain is clogged, the air conditioner stops working. And the air conditioner was still working. That would have nothing to do with the drip. I also knew the drain wasn't clogged because I had a company go there just three months ago to clean it out. There was a bigger issue with the air conditioner.

Besides that, the guy didn't show up that night. It was supposed to be between certain times and even two hours later he said he called my house and I didn't get the phone call. But that should not have stopped him from going to the house if somebody can't answer the phone, let's say, somebody's in the bathroom. Then when he came the next day, that was when he misdiagnosed the issue 'cause it was still leaking when he left.

We called back a day or two later and American Home Shield sent over another company called Automatic Control. I felt very highly about them. When they came, they found two things. They said the coil has growth on it and the drain pan was cracked. So, that was the actual reason for the leakage. But we still have the problem. AHS never got back to me as to what they found and where we stood. I waited two days. I went online and it just said closed. They didn't do anything. It was still leaking but it was marked closed. When I called AHS, it was a little difficult dealing with the person there this time. I've dealt with them before, and they've been very good. But this one here, I couldn't get a straight answer as to where it stands and what the problem is.

I'm still hoping 'cause I was gonna call them in the next couple of days. They don't cover the growth on the coil, and you must do that first before you can repair the drain pan. And that would be covered. They said the cost of cleaning it is about $700. That's just an estimate and I didn't feel good. There was no formal price and they should be able to give me a firm price.

When American Home Shield got the report from the Automatic Control, somebody should've contacted me to tell me the result. Or they should have put it on the website. I'm used to my other service things. They usually check and verify it was taken care of to our satisfaction. And that did not happen. Even when AZ didn't show up the first time, American Home Shield just never got back. They didn't contact me asking what happened. The part that bothers me is that the follow-up after a service thing was non-existent. And all they did in both cases was mark it closed. Matter of fact, when I looked up my account for AZ, it said closed when the guy had not even been there. They marked it closed 'cause the guy said he tried to go there. Most likely, it's how AZ reported it to them.

Air Pro Master came out because they came out for something before and then we had a couple of new things with the drain and a toilet thing. Plus, we have a bathtub that won't drain. It's easier to call American Home Shield to file a claim. Their representatives are straightforward. They're based in the Philippines, so the English is good. It's fluent. The contractors are hit or miss though. Air Pro Master is great. I'd prefer to use them whenever I can if I have the choice.

We had someone come out for the dishwasher today. The problem is our dishwasher won't drain. And he's like, "Oh, well, because there's standing water in it and it won't drain, now, it has to be drained before I can fix it and diagnose it." So he was telling me I need to fix the concern before they can fix it. We've also had Alchemist Pool and A-1 Electrical and that electrical company also was awesome. Then the pool company was great just like Air Pro Master. The appliance companies are dumpster fires. Everything else was great.

The first contractor that was sent out by AHS was pretty easygoing. However, they gave me the wrong diagnostic at the time. And so, I called AHS and wanted to make a second opinion. And I just experienced little difficulties. It was kinda choppy, hard to hear, as if it was muffled. But it was pretty straightforward, not too aggressive. It was a nice, easy tone. I was then able to get a second claim to come out. But then I had to fix the problem myself. I was told that what I would need to get done wasn’t gonna be covered. And I just didn’t agree with that. But I’d spoken to another representative and she was very helpful in reconciling any problems that I’ve had.

I am usually able to submit a claim online to American Home Shield and It’s super easy to get things scheduled. The next day, whoever I need service with, they would give us a call and we would get it going. The air conditioner wasn’t as cool as it used to be and we had it looked at. When the contractor came back the second time, he ran all the tests and said that everything seemed to be normal. He recommended that we might wanna get a cleaning done some time. Other than that, everything has been performing perfectly. We would probably get the maintenance done on it and see if that improves things.

The technician saw a bunch of stuff up there that you usually get done once a year and it looked like it hadn't been done since we've been there. It's called a deep cleaning so we just gotta get that going. It has been a pleasure using AHS. We haven't had any issues when people come out to fix the problem, whether it's plumbing or air conditioner. People should use AHS if they’re looking for anything like that because it’s good.

I have been trying to get the paperwork for a ticket they closed out for a week now. I have been hung up on multiple times, lied to, and straight up ignored. Never use this company, I'll never use them again. I have had the unfortunate experience of having them for 2 properties now. They send out the cheapest people they can find who will lie to get more money out of their users. This most recent experience sealed it for me. Asked for an A/C repair in Texas in the middle of July. They send someone out, AHS says I need to pay $2000 to get it fixed without an explanation of why. When I ask for the write up explaining the repair they hang up on me. I call back, they hang up again. Repeat 3 or 4 more times before I get the picture. I repeat NEVER USE THIS COMPANY.

I have had AHS since at least 7/5/18 and have paid my fee monthly without any issues. I paid my first service fee of $100 on 5/22/19 for a downed air conditioner unit. The first technician came out at the end of May and said that they didn't have the tools needed to repair the unit and would submit an order for replacement to AHS. I didn’t hear back from anyone for weeks so I called on my own the 2nd week of June to find out that the they were still deciding on what to do with the repair or replacement. I asked why no one followed up with me and they apologized and said a different contractor was set to show up the week of 6/16/19. This contractor said they were sent out because AHS didn’t want to pay the amount the last contractor sent in for the replacement. So they checked it to find that they needed to submit another order for replacement for AHS and I needed to wait to hear back. To my surprise no one called me.

7/1/19, I called AHS again for information and they said they were waiting on the evaluation from the contractor. I asked why did I have to call in repeatedly to remind my warranty company to stay on top of them. AHS then reached out and told me I would have to pay $400 for the extra refrigerant as listed in the contract. I went and read the contract and this was valid so I agreed to do so to the contractor when they arrived. The contractor arrived today, 7/18/19, and told me the compressor part that AHS ordered was the wrong size and I’d have to wait again for a resolution. Every time I call AHS for a resolution, no one will own the problem, no one will get me to a supervisor and I’m beyond frustrated. Once this is fixed I’ll never come back to AHS.

He said a part would need to be ordered. On 7/9 I receive an email requesting a review on my completed job. I contacted AHS and told them the part was never installed and the job was not complete. They said no parts were requested so nothing was authorized. AHS said they would contact Total Air Care to determine what needed to be done. It is now 7/18 and my a/c has still not been repaired. I keep calling and AHS blames Total Air. Total Air keeps blaming AHS. They keep saying someone will call you within a few hours and no one calls. I finally couldn't stand living in a 90 degree house any longer so I purchased a window unit.

I contacted AHS and told them I think they should reimburse me for the window unit. They agreed to only pay $60 on a $260 invoice. On 7/15 AHS contacted me to say they authorized ordering the part but that I would have to pay $800 for the refrigerant. I said ok. I called Total Air on 7/17 to check on the part. They said you haven't authorized the $800. I said I authorized AHS. They said you didn't authorize us. I said but no one from your company contacted me. I was told someone would call within 2 hours. It has been 24 hours and no one has called. I contacted AHS and requested a new contractor. I also told them if nothing is resolved by tomorrow, my next call would be to an attorney. Filed a claim to have our central AC unit repaired on 6/30/19. Temprite INC was assigned, but never called to schedule a visit. I finally called them on 7/3 and they arrived on 7/5. The tech was there about 15 minutes and advised that the blower motor needed to be replaced, but needed parts. They left with no further update. A week later and after many calls to both Temprite (who immediately puts you on hold) and AHS, we finally got a tech to return on 7/16. He replaced the part, but the AC was still blowing hot. He advised that there was a leak and the lines should be tested. He further recommended that the unit be replaced as it was a 410 system (it's not, it's R22) for $4200 and the evaporator coil was bad. The system is 9 years old. They left without doing anything.

During this time, I have been dealing with a cranky 80 y/o mother in law during a heat advisory that thinks she's going to die due to the heat in the house. We bought window units to bring the temp down to 80 during the day. I had the utility company respond on 7/17, who shot dye into the system and recharged it (paid out of pocket) because Temprite said they couldn't respond until next week (7/22). We have the system band aided right now, but it is going to need the evap coil replaced asap.

Called AHS to attempt to change contractors, but they made several excuses, mainly that the contractor was not uploading the notes and diagnosis into their system. Which is probably true. They also said they were sending the complaints to the contractor review department, but it does not appear that anything will be done, as they have reassigned them to return again to fix the issue (hopefully). Now the case is showing under review. I'm not sure that I can get an answer if I call, as I can hardly understand the customer service reps that have zero authority to do anything. That being said, we have used AHS in the past for plumbing issues and the company that they sent was awesome, quick and courteous. I'd pay out of pocket with zero issue. I'm not saying AHS is bad, but they definitely have some issues that need to be resolved in their customer service department.

I've used AHS for other issues and time has always been an issue. 5 days to get a Hot Water Heater. Anyhow, I filed a claim in December as I had water leaking from the Tub into my basement of my rental. The plumber they sent out diagnosed the issue, and proceeded to "Fix" the problem. Well in Feb when I went to inspect I found out that there was still a leak. Now at the same time I was having the bathroom repaired from the previous leaks water damage. The plumber told me he had to find parts to replace the leaking parts with, and that because the Home was old, it was hard to find. Once he did find the parts he needed someone to cut away the bathroom insert to get at the plumbing. Needless to say that was not going to happen and that's why I had tried to get him in to fix this prior to the new insert being put in.

In speaking with the contractor whom was doing the bathroom reno, he said that the plumber should do the job from the backside of the tub which was in the closet, by cutting an access point. Plumber did not want to do it that way. I called in to AHS, and this was the only plumber they had in my area, I told them I had a contractor willing to do the work so that I could get the leak fixed. I was told I could go ahead and then just file for my money back based on the conversation. So, the work got done, and then I called in to see what the "Status" of the previous call was as they needed to get "Diagnosis" information from the previous plumber, which he really didn't give them much, and so they denied my request. I spoke to a specialist who advised to file an appeal. Said appeal was quickly denied, I'm willing to bet without anyone actually reading it. Now, I'm getting ready to cancel my policy.

I have been an AHS customer for many, many years. Today (almost a week of starting this) was the WORST customer service I have ever experienced! My refrigerator went out on Thursday. I called and was told the soonest a tech could come out was almost 3 weeks out. I told the agent that I have medication that needs refrigerated and was told they could do 2 weeks, instead of 3 weeks. I was told to buy a refrigerator and I would be reimbursed.

I am a senior citizen on a very tiny budget. How could I afford this? Then my option I was given today was to "hire a local tech and we can reimburse" - again, I DO NOT HAVE any available money to do this! I do not have a credit card, I do not have "extra money" and I do not accept this as an option! I was told today "This is your FINAL AND ONLY OPTION - or wait until 2 weeks". I asked (begged) to speak to a manager and was told "A manager is busy with another customer but they will say the exact same thing". I told them again about my medication and was told "Sorry to hear that, but that is an issue that is NOT OUR ISSUE".

I am shocked and surprised by the inhumanity and lack of compassion by a company that once was stellar. A company who states "make owning a home easier by helping our customers.." This is far from what you once represented. I am not just upset, I am truly sad. My health is on the decline - as I mentioned - and to be told this is "NOT OUR ISSUE," is appalling!

I don't know where to turn. When customer service does not allow you to speak to a manager (I said I would hold to speak to one, but was told, they are unable to have me on hold that long), customer service does not try to assist with options, and they lack compassion, where do I turn?? I will say it now and have it known, that my medication needs to be refrigerated.

I am sure I am not the only customer you have that has medication refrigerated. Do you need someone's death or severe health/hospitalization happen for you to TRY and have someone out sooner that the unacceptable 2 weeks? Does someone have to end up in the hospital because a policy they pay on cannot be depended on?? Do I have to end up harming my health because customer service REFUSES TO help, even after I tell them I DO NOT have money upfront to pay an outside technician to come, where you would reimburse, even though I have been a customer for years???

I have been give the runaround, I have been told "we will call you back," and I was told several times, "A manager cannot come to the line right now," and the final result is no one is coming here for 2 weeks UNLESS I PAY for a technician out of my own pocket. This is a horrible situation. Unfortunately, this is my only way to reach out and hopefully someone finally listens.

With my most recent experience with American Home Shield, I had a young man named Kevin from A-US come out, and he did a really good job. The house wasn’t cooling and he found that the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. And then, it kept tripping our breaker, so he put a solenoid in there to boost the compressor and kick-start it. He was very professional.

So far, we've been well pleased with American Home Shield. They get the people and get them out here. I won't say every single experience we've had has been positive. We've really appreciated everyone and they've done an excellent job. But one time, we've had a man who did not do a good job and left dirty stuff in our home and told us something was wrong and that he was gonna have to go on the roof. Then, he looked into that and said no. And he was gonna charge us the amount, and it turned out that wasn't even the case. We didn't fault the company. We just told them about that one experience, the one person, and he's never come here again.

Our most recent claim was for a leak in an upstairs toilet. We called American Home Shield to try to figure out what was wrong with the toilet. And, at first, the guy who came out actually missed it. He thought he'd fixed it, and it was fine. Then, he came back because it continued to drip. And he closed it. My husband knows about plumbing and he said they did an excellent job, and he was well pleased.

Some time beginning of June, we called American Home Shield on a condominium that we have in Ocean City, Maryland. They sent out a very knowledgeable guy. He reset our system. It cost me the service fee which I knew, and it cost me additional $350 for the Freon that had to be shot into the system. All was working good up until this past Friday night so I called in. I said my air conditioning is not working. The temperature in Ocean City, Maryland that time was definitely in the 90s. The person told me that they would have somebody get in touch with me within four hours. I said to the person at American Home Shield, "I would like request the same guy who came out the first time. He's a very knowledgeable and very competent guy." They said they'd get in touch with him.

I reached out to the guy who American Home Shield sent. His name is Bill. I told him American Home Shield said he'd give me a call to come back and reservice the AC. He said he'd wait to hear from them. Saturday morning around 8 or 9 o’clock, I texted him and asked if he had heard anything from American Home Shield. He said nobody had contacted him. I waited. I figured that it was a weekend. Around 11 o’clock, I called American Home Shield and said I called in over 12 hours ago and I was told that somebody would be in touch with me within four hours. I also told them I didn’t expect anybody to come out that late at night, but I expected a phone call the next morning. It was 11 o’clock and it was hotter than Hades and there were four adults and four children down to the age of one in the condominium.

I also asked why they hadn’t contacted Bill. I was told that Bill is not in the American Home Shield system. I said, “What do you mean he's not in your system? You folks sent him out of here, and I didn't know this guy from Adam.” They said, “No, he's not in our system. He's not an approved contractor.” What Bill told me was, "American Home Shield called me because they needed help with servicing units. I used to do a lot of work for them, but I stopped doing work for them around 2010.” So, apparently, that means he's out of network and I didn’t realize that. Otherwise, I woulda never reach back out to him.

We've had this condominium back in 2005. At the time that I bought the place, I paid for an upgrade for a Carrier Coastal air conditioning. We have had the thing on a service policy for at least 10 years. They come out twice a year to service it. They came out in March to do their semi-annual service. They're due to come back out in October just to check up. So, I called them to come out and take a look at it. They came out, looked at it, and said, “Your system is shot. We'll give you a proposal on what it's gonna take to make it work. You're gonna need a new system.”

In the meantime, I called Bill. He got the authorization to come out, take a look at the unit and heat system. He came out at 10 o’clock in the morning and said, “Your system is shot. It's done." ABC Refrigeration said the same thing. My wife was there talking to the neighbors and they said, “Well, you ought to call this other company and have them come out.” So, Carol called this other company, Arctic. They came out yesterday, Monday, and they rendered the exact, same opinion.

I had written to Craig with whom I do business. I'm in the real estate business and over the years, I have sold a ton of American Home Shield policies to my clients. I got in touch with Craig and I sent him the pictures and the proposals from the two that I had, ABC Refrigeration and Arctic. What I had requested in the previous email, previous to the one that I sent to him today, was for Bill to come back and put the system in for me. He called me back and said they’ve authorized the repair but they’re not going to authorize the Carrier unit that I have.

He said the system that I have right now is a 10-tier system and they would replace it with a 14-tier. I asked if I can upgrade to a 16 and I'll pay for that upgrade. And if they're not gonna go with a Carrier unit or a coastal unit, I'll pay for the coastal unit. If they're not gonna go for the Carrier, if they're gonna send out an ABC brand, I want to upgrade it to a Carrier. I wanna keep what I paid for initially, which is coastal. I do understand that the American Home Shield policy states pretty clearly that I don’t get like for like but I want a better efficiency system for energy efficiency and a coastal unit.

This morning, I sent in an estimate from ABC Refrigeration that’s about $7,000 and the one from Arctic which is $8,000 (which I think is ridiculous, but that’s what they came up with). But American Home Shield is only going to pay me $1,950 to have me get a new system. I said, “On what planet would you be able to get an indoor air handler and a rooftop compressor for $1,950 installed? It doesn't exist.”

Now, I rehab houses as part of my business and I just installed an $11,000 air conditioning and gas furnace system in the house that I rehabbed up in Baltimore. But that’s a complete system and this is for a condominium so I've got my finger on the pulse as to approximately what it's gonna cost. I felt the $8,000 price that Arctic put down must be smoking something because that’s way too high for a condominium.

With ABC, because I was a returning customer, I would get a 10% discount since they did my services and that would be a coastal unit. It would be like $6,300, if I went with them. However, they're not an American Home Shield approved contractor. So, I made a request that they be engaged in this thinking that since Bill was originally sent out to do the work, he probably can get the system at a better price. American Home Shield could get it at a better price because of their buying power than ABC Refrigeration could. Maybe their $6,000 price might be $5,000 through American Home Shield.

When I got the email, I asked for Craig to give me call and I've been waiting for his call. Right now, I'm dead in the water. I have a dead unit in the roof of this building. I don’t have any heating or air conditioning in this system. My wife is supposed to go down there. My sisters are coming in, one from Georgia, one from Massachusetts. They were gonna have girls' weekend down in Ocean City, Maryland this coming weekend. I told them to cancel the trip. It's not gonna happen because ain’t no air conditioning and it's not gonna be very comfortable being in a private condominium. It's been a bit of troubling and irritating.

When we had our house, it was going through inspection 'cause we were selling it. We were told during the inspection that we had to fix the water heater. When we tried to go to someone local, it was a couple of hundred dollars. We put in a claim to see if American Home Shield could fix it at a more affordable rate. We called them and it was a super quick and smooth transaction. We received an appointment with A-American through email the next day. They came out a few days later and replaced the water heater. It was super easy. Although I don't have AHS anymore, it was a good experience when I had it.

The tech that did my air conditioner came two minutes early. I had a three-hour window, and no one was ever there at the beginning of the window block. So, that was impressive. But everything was completed on both days where they showed up, and we had nothing that we ever needed to call anyone back for. I've been really, really thankful for American Home Shield because I have an old home. They’re a great thing to have.

Something broke in my dryer. American Home Shield had an easy and user-friendly website when I made a service request. They responded immediately to my claim and the money wasn't taken out until the repair people came out and looked at the issue. I was told to expect a contractor within 24 hours. When I make a claim, I would get a text message immediately after. I would get the contractor's information like their phone number in case no one calls me. But usually, I get a call from them the next morning.

This time, Maughanster Appliance Repair was the contractor. The following day after I spoke with them, they worked me into a schedule. That was within 48 hours. They were polite and I didn't get the runaround. They were very busy but they worked me in when they could. A lot of people have warranties and issues going on, so I knew I wasn't the only one. Their guy said he was gonna come between a certain time and he was on time. Also, he called me 15 minutes prior like he said he was going to do. He diagnosed and fixed the problem. The dyer had been great since. It was overall a good experience. I'd recommend American Home Shield if someone who is having appliance issues came to me. You pay a fee every month and they're there when you need them.

We have two garbage disposals and one of them was leaking. It wasn’t a piping leak. It was coming out the entire body of the garbage disposal. It had rusted out or disintegrated internally. I went online and requested service with American Home Shield. The website was pretty good. I did another request for a pool. I did that one verbally and it was a little difficult. But the website seemed to work quite well. It was easy to navigate and got right to it. It asked a lot of questions than I expected to about the details. Somebody then got back to me right away.

The contractor was good. When I called the scheduler for the actual service company, I was trying to tell them what the scenario was. I was not sure if they had enough information. I knew the unit would have to be replaced. It wasn’t gonna be something that could be repaired. The scheduler seemed less knowledgeable about what I was trying to explain. I was trying to explain what the garbage disposal was so they would have one. But she wasn’t gonna have any of that. She didn’t want me to self-diagnose my problem. But they scheduled the service and it was the next day.

A technician showed up on time and the guy had a unit on his truck. It was not for me but for another client. But it was the same model I had. The disposal unit was pretty universal as far as where the fittings come in and out. Once the guy looked at it, he concurred that what I had described was correct, went off to his van, got the unit, and within 15 minutes, it was installed and done. He then went and replaced that unit for the next client.

For this particular claim, my experience was excellent and I was very satisfied. There was one claim I had where I called and spoke to a representative who was a little more difficult. I don’t think they were local. There was an accent that I was having a hard time understanding. I was trying to describe technical issues pertaining to the item and they were not understanding me technically. In the end, the issue got resolved beautifully. The person was knowledgeable and all that worked really well. Going through the telephone was more difficult. But when I went through the site, it was much more seamless.

It was working, but the pump that pumps the water out of the dishwasher reservoir into the drain line was not operational. It wasn’t emptying water. They had to replace the pump. And the initial call out by the service technician for Swift Electric diagnosed it and, unfortunately, he didn’t have parts. So he had to wait until the parts arrived. I have AHS warranty. 23 days ago I was able to have an AC tech come out to take a look. 5 minutes.... easy diagnosis and quick repair if only the part was in hand. Part was ordered. 2 weeks go by and part was lost. Part reordered. Arrived in tech's hands so a date 6 days later, at the earliest was made.

AC tech scheduled. Called 3 hours after waiting for him to arrive saying the 'part was defective.' He never arrived at the house but apparently with some magic he was able to determine part would not work. After several more hours on hold and waiting. New (same part) was ordered. I am "in luck"!!! Yay!! It is in stock somewhere in S. FL. Finally, re-scheduled tech when part arrived in town. Yesss.

Nope. It is another week and a half wait before an AC tech might arrive. Call me 24 days of 90 degrees in house and waiting. Why waste the $ for AHS when I could have put the cash to good use and had my AC fixed choosing my own company. AHS 3rd party vendor/company knows this so you WILL be at the end of the line every step of the way.

I have had a home warranty through AHS for about 2 years and have only used it 2 times for minor repairs with no issues. BUT...when my air conditioning failed on a Saturday in 100 degree heat, the problems started. I started my claim online. I received a call from a contractor who wasn't available to come to my house for 4 days. I have children and an elderly pet, so it was unsafe for us to live in this heat for that long. AHS attempted to find another contractor to come out sooner but was unable to. After some arguing, they approved me finding my own contractor. I found one to come the very same day in 1 call.

When my contractor called the autho dept, the repair was completely denied, the person on the phone was rude and told me that "she was hot too." I was totally offended and as a medical provider concerned for my family. I asked to speak to a supervisor, was told they would call me within 24 hours, but am still waiting. I tried to call but was told that they can't transfer calls to the autho department. I was placed on hold for 30 mins, then the call disconnected. No one ever called me back. Needless to say, I have had to pay for the repair myself. I am shocked that a company would have that much disregard for human life and will be proceeding with action against this company. I knew they wouldn't be able to get someone out to me asap and I didn't want to live in feces for days so I didn't. I explained it to them but they don't care. So, this warranty is virtually worthless. I really don't know how you folks have these 'good' reviews up as my experience - all the way around - was awful. Just plain awful. I'm sorry I wasted my money buying this unusable warranty.

We have not had AC in our Las Vegas home for almost two week, with two toddlers in the house. They've had three people come out and won't approve a work order. The first people they sent said there was nothing wrong literally as the temperature in the house went from 80 to 82. The second company had a list of issues and they said the AHS declined the work order, and the third company had a list of issues but declined the work order because the second company should've done the work. My house got to 97 degrees with little kids and animals. They also told me they would only reimburse me for $60 on a portable AC unit. I can get a desk sized portable AC unit for $60, it definitely will not cool even a room in my 97 degree house. This has been a pain and a joke. I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

AHS hired plumber stated major mods were needed to install a water heater due to a code change in 2015. The code change was an efficiency change to encourage tankless water heaters. Problem: contractor was going to install a tank heater. AHS only offered $247 cash. Canceled AHS policy. Worthless policy and SCAM installer with bogus upcharges for unnecessary modifications. Water heater is covered under policy. SCAM installers wanted $395 in mods. AHS cash offer is ludicrous, not even covering half the cost of a new water heater. My licensed plumber replaced with a unit I paid out of pocket for with ZERO mods required.

I've had American Home Shield for several years and decided it wasn't worth the $42.99/mo - $515.88/yr. The Value of their Service? In the last 5 years we have used them twice. Twice the technicians said they could only use a 'band-aid' fix, not real solution, to fix the problem. Our savings was approx. $300-$500 total on the two service calls we had, costing us $100 for each service call and the $2579.40 in our cumulative monthly fees. I'll let you decide if it's a good value, but you could probably put half of the payments into savings instead of paying them and have plenty of money to band-aid any problem like they would, for much less.

Grand Hopes: I think I had grander hopes, like they would replace something that is broke or faulty, rather than put a band-aid on to keep it working another couple years, until you cancelled your service so they wouldn't have to pay out on anything big. Funny how our mind focus on what we want more than what we will likely get. Double Charged: 4+ years in, on our second service, we had a difficult time sorting out the $100 fee we had to pay out when they band-aid fixed out furnace; they charged us twice for the same problem. It took a couple months of calls and letters back and forth, but that finally got things resolved. If you have plenty of time to waste you will have no problem with their service.

Good Value: If you are thinking short term, just bought a home and want peace of mind or know something is about to blow-up, this may be a great service and peace of mind... or not. I was lazy: I waited too long to cancel; I was lazy. They had been using a credit card that expired and I thought that when they asked to get a new card it was a good time to 'exit stage left', cancelling verbally is kinda like breaking up, not very fun and usually they draw it out by trying to woo you back or to stay with them. Only, a month later they figured out how to re-active their link to my new credit card that I don't use or look at the statements, just trying to pay it down; only to find out they have put another $214.95 back on it in my absence of reviewing that account. Me being lazy was costly for me, not for them.

I originally got this service on April 24th 2019. I told customer service that I don't get my social security checks till the 27th of each month, so you can take the monthly fee out on the 28th of each month, the 2nd month they took it out on the 28th, the 3rd month they took it out on the 24th and my bank charged me a $35 overdraft fee. I called them on June 25th. They said they would listen to the original order and get back to me within 48hrs. No one ever called me back, so I called them today, and I was told that if I wanted to change the date from the 24th to the 28th of each month they would have to take out 2 payments. One on the 24th AND one on the 28th.

I asked to speak with a supervisor, and after 5 min of being on hold was told the supervisor was on another call. I again told customer service that the 28th was the original date of each month that they were to take the payment out of my acct, he told me policy was to take 2 payments if I wanted to change the date, so I totally canceled the service, very disgusted with this company.

The contractors came in and said they couldn’t fix it but they replaced the whole thing. Everyone that AHS sent out were knowledgeable with what they were doing and they took good care of us. I was a new homeowner. I hadn't been in the property three days, and the air conditioner unit outside quit working. I had to call my lender and my real estate agent. I also called the title company and they told me I had a home warranty. They gave me the number to contact American Home Shield. I had to go through a lot. I had to appeal. American Home Shield tried to tell me that it wasn’t covered, and I had to get an attorney, and then I had to get the lender involved to sort out everything. Because when I hired the HVAC-certified inspector, he said that the system was working fine. But eventually, it got resolved.

The contractor had to come out and bring a new condenser for the outside unit. But when he inspected the home unit, he said that there is a leak upstairs in the compressor in the attic, but it wasn’t leaking enough to warrant a repair. So, I took pictures and I have videos of it. But to me, it didn't make sense to replace the outside unit when the inside compressor noticeably has damage, and eventually, it’s gonna go out as well. It seemed like they would've just fixed the whole unit. The contractor also told me that American Home Shield will cover it when it breaks down. He said I just need to call American Home Shield back, which seems crazy to me. There's a big water stain in the floor, and it's probably gonna create more damage than just the compressor. They could have been preventive than reactive.

Everything is good with my experience with American Home Shield, so far. Everything has been pleasant. They’ve been professional and courteous. I have no complaints. I submitted a claim for the dishwasher but when the contractor came, he couldn’t do anything at that time because he didn’t have any of the parts. So, we had to wait. So, my part would be coming in for my dishwasher on Thursday. But it's a whole new dishwasher.

When he came, I had explained it to him about the dishwasher and the stove situation. I said, “Here, I got a whole another stove that I went and bought listening to Sears and I got a dishwasher right here.” This is supposed to be the dishwasher, but when we opened it up, we still couldn't do anything with it because it's still just the metal frame, the stainless steel casing for the dishwasher. It didn’t have any heating element. It didn’t have any of the wire. It didn’t have anything.

So, he took pictures of it and he sent it in. He said he couldn't believe they did it. I said, “Yeah," Because the repairman for Sears that came was supposed to be fixing the stove and the dishwasher, but the system was out. Then, we had a problem for anything to go through and he couldn’t cancel anything. So, when he called into the main office, they were even having a problem. So, I'm like, “can we just cancel and we just do it all together?” Nothing went through them but then all of a sudden, the package was dropped off and it was the dishwasher.

I'm like, “I'm gonna get my dishwasher fixed.” But I never opened up the box. It's just sitting there. So, I'd had enough of Sears because it was supposed to be like American Home Shield is what I thought I had, but it wasn’t. And when I called Sears, it was only one item that was under warranty, and it was the washing machine and there was nothing else. So, I went online and I looked up all the different home warranties that they had and the only one that stood out was American Home Shield, so I said I'll go with American Home Shield. And I went with them and I have no problems, no complaints, and I've been telling everybody about American Home Shield.

However, the experience depends on who the contractor is. We have continued AC trouble and they’re going back and forth between A-US Air and American Home Shield. I’ve been without AC for a week and a half, and I’m in Texas. I’m waiting for A-US Air to contact American Home Shield, and then American Home Shield to approve the repairs required. If they come back and replace my upstairs unit like the contractor says needs to be replaced, the repairs are made, and my AC’s fixed finally, then I would probably recommend American Home Shield.

East Electronics thought they knew what the issue was. They were professional but when it came down to actually finding the root cause, it was a sealed system issue and not an icemaker issue. They bought a new icemaker and had it installed, but that didn't need to be done.

My refrigerator is still not working. The sealed system guy came out and said it needed a new compressor. He was gonna go back to American Home Shield and see what they wanna do. I've been AHS customer for 20 yrs @ 2 houses. AHS service keeps getting worse; recently it took 6 weeks to fix master bath shower faucet, because plumber doesn't arrive with repair parts even when they know what the problem is up front & company is booked up for 10 days after I call in the trouble ticket. When plumber couldn't remove the faulty part, he stated only solution was to "bust through the drywall" of the adjoining bedroom to remove the part. Finally a 2nd plumber came and completed the repair. But again, this was after 2 service calls, and I was without a master bath shower for 6 weeks. Unacceptable service. Why should I renew my contract when it's up in September?

My cooktop started doing a random ticking so I contacted AHS. They came out 3 or 4 days later but at the time of the service inspector's arrival the cook top wasn't ticking. Let me add it typically ticks after I have been cooking for a while, so he said nothing was wrong with it and was about to leave. I said, "No it ticks after cooking but not all the time." He then mentioned it was likely the igniter and would order a part that would come to my home in 2 or 3 business days. They were ordered on 7/5 and it's 7/16 and I have not seen a part.

I called to check on the parts as the inspector said he was coming today this afternoon to install the new part. Well wouldn't you know Sears nor AHS had no recollection of the follow-up appointment. Long story short after waiting on hold for a good 10 minutes with AHS, the woman comes back on the phone to say Sears are waiting on parts (that were supposed to come to me) and they don't have a service date and someone from Sears would call me when they can to update me. I paid $125 for the service fee and my stove still ticks after I cook. I will not recommend them to anyone because that was just ridiculous. I could have called a local repair shop and been better off.

My A/C went out on Thursday evening. I got a fairly quick response and got a call from the service provider on Friday morning and we were able to make an appointment for Saturday morning. The tech came Saturday and quickly diagnosed the problem as something that would require additional manpower and time and would therefore require approval from AHS. I called later Saturday to see how things were progressing and was told that once it was approved I would hear something. I called again Monday around noon and over the course of 3 phone calls got 3 very different stories. The first told me I should hear something in 24-48 business hours, but struggled to understand what I was asking about. The second told me everything was approved, I owed nothing and that we were waiting on the technician to order the part needed.

I then called the technician and asked when it might come, if we could get a date on the schedule. They were surprised as they had not received the approval. I called AHS a third time to ask why it had not been sent and learned it was not approved yet after all, that it should be approved that day or the following morning and I would owe some kind of money. This person said the previous person needed additional training and that the supervisor would be listening to the tape of our conversation. Meanwhile it is summer in Texas and the temp in my home is now in the eighties. The following day, when I had heard nothing by noon, I called again and was told that because the second woman told me the wrong thing, it now has to be reviewed by a supervisor and that the supervisor had 24-48 hours to get back to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that was impossible and that I could be sent to an escalation team.

I asked to be transferred, when transferred a message stated that the escalation team was not taking calls and that I should use normal channels then the call abruptly ended. When I called back to once again insist on speaking to someone who could actually help me I was told this was impossible. At this point, I am contacting a repairman outside of this so that my air conditioner can actually be fixed! The whole process has been frustrating and nothing is getting done. To quote my mother “The policy is not worth the paper it is printed on”. My customer satisfaction is zero and I will not be recommending this company to anyone. I would like to add that there is nowhere to leave a written review, yet there are glowing reviews on the website which remain the same though the dates keep updating to make them current, indicating they are either false or someone keeps changing the dates to make them look more recent.

On 27 April 2019 I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) to have a technician check our refrigerator that was making an unusual noise. On 29 April 2019 I called AHS and directed them to cancel the Work Order for the repair as there was nothing wrong with the refrigerator as it turned out to be the breaker in the breaker box had failed. I had an electrician replace the breaker and the refrigerator worked just fine. On 29 April 2019, the day I had the Work Order cancelled, the AHS Representative confirmed to me that the repairmen had done nothing to that point, no work undertaken and the repairman had not been to our residence.

The AHS Representative confirmed that my credit card would not be charged the $100 Service Fee and everything was in order. AHS, then on the very same day, 29 April 2019 billed my credit card for the $100 Service Fee. AHS contends they issued a credit to my credit card on 05 June 2019 which they certainly did not. Not only that but after 11 phone calls to AHS since 29 April 2019 AHS has made conflicting statements as to reimbursement for the erroneous charge to my credit card. I was told on three separate occasions by AHS that a personal check for $100 had been processed, firstly on 27 May 2019 and then AHS changed that date to 05 June 2019 stating that within 14-21 Business Days the check would arrive. These statements made by AHS were totally untrue.

The last five phone calls to AHS they changed their story once again with the AHS Representative stating the $100 credit was issued to my credit card on 05 June 2019 with no personal check having been sent and that IT WAS NOW MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVE THAT AHS DID NOT PROVIDE A CREDIT TO MY CARD. This is absolutely ridiculous. AHS is the most unprofessional company I've ever dealt with. I informed AHS the burden of proving AHS did not issue a credit to my credit card did not lie with me but rather AHS needed to proved they had issued such credit and to contact the bank who issued the card. The bank confirmed no such credit had been issued and would be happy to advise AHS of such.

The last six phone calls that I made to AHS I insisted on speaking with a Supervisor only to be told by the AHS Representative that they handle matters at their level with clients and that as far as they were concerned my issue had been addressed and therefore no need to speak with a Supervisor. They then outright refused to transfer me to a Supervisor. It is now 16 July 2019, two and one-half months since my account was erroneously charged by AHS. I STILL DO NOT HAVE A REIMBURSEMENT FROM AHS FOR THE $100 ERRONEOUS CHARGE TO MY CREDIT CARD.

My whole experience has been difficult. Steve Nance Appliance was fabulous. It wasn’t them. It was American Home Shield. But I'm a Realtor and I understand that a customer is paying approximately $700 for a home warranty when the potential of risk there for American Home Shield to lose money is huge. So, they have to go through a process to make sure that all claims are legit. I totally get it but it just takes forever to navigate the process. When you have a washing machine that’s broken, it’d be nice if they had a different way to get through that that didn’t take so long. Also, my AC is broken and it should be covered, but it's not. The guy who came out said there was something else wrong than what the guy who called me said, but there again, I see their status. They’ve already spent more than they’ve gotten fixing my things. There is value to their warranty, but it's exhausting.

I went online to submit a claim with American Home Shield and there was no red tape. The problem was getting adequate service. It took six visits to get the problem fixed. The contractors were trying to fix Freon leaks. The compressor and evaporator pump were not working in the air conditioning system. The contractors were very friendly, except for the one from US Air. He was a large man that didn’t fit into my available attic space. He couldn’t maneuver in there well, and he didn’t like the working conditions. So, he did a little bit of work, but not all of the work, and it had to get turned over to another company. And they did the work, but they left me with leaks in a couple of pipes. And then we had to submit other claims to get those pipe leaks fixed.

Eventually they got it all done. But each time they came out, they left something undone that had to be followed up. This has been about three months. But it’s resolved now. American Home Shield did what they were supposed to do. They contracted with service technicians to come out and do the work and charged me my regular deductible. I'd tell others to go ahead and get the warranty. It’s worth the money.

My wife heard water leaking in our bathroom and the guy from Budget Rooter came over to find out where it was coming from. We were unable to identify it but he did the best he could. He was great. My experience with Budget Rooter was pleasant but it didn't necessarily resolve what we were hoping to resolve. That would probably require additional investigation that I was not ready to do at the time. The source of the drops is still questionable. We looked for water anywhere that we could think of. When he came, he didn't even hear the drops that my wife claims was bothering her. I go in there periodically and I sometimes hear it, and sometimes, I don't so it's not really a big deal especially when I don't see any leaks or water anywhere.

American Home Shield generally sends out quality people. I'm gonna use them again 'cause I have a refrigeration problem. They have sent a guy up before who fixed it, but that was like four, five months ago. The issue is that my ice cubes are not coming out. It's not even filled with water so I'm not sure where the problem is.

It's very simple and easy navigating the American Home Shield website. The thing about is it all depends on the person. If you have a person who loves to call and make things happen because they don't have time to be on a computer and do this, that's one thing. But for a person like me, I work with computers all day. I know that technology is gonna cause you to wait a while. I have learned patience for that because no matter how much I rush, that computer is only gonna move as fast my internet connection.

After making my claim, I was given time to expect my contractor US Air Conditioning. They met my expectation. Normally, you get a four-hour window and that's understandable. If they are running late, I get a call saying the technician would be running late because of complications. The communication is there and I'm pleased with that. Prior to US Air Conditioning coming out, I had a company come out and they replaced the outside compressor of my AC. But in less than 60 days, it went out again. US Air Conditioning replaced it for me and they did a wonderful job. The AC has been operating great. I was hot then but now, I'm cold.

The contractor was awesome. When the guy came out, he said it might take a while to get this order because it was more of a brand new compressor and they had to order it. I got a call the next day when it turned over to a different department. It was to let them settle the battle because it could have been an issue and the last technician could have messed it up. After a couple of days, I got a call saying that they wanted to schedule a time to do our compressor. I had family coming in town, so they worked out great for me. The rep was awesome too. He was very professional. I understand the business model and the customer service part. I believe in speaking out.

A couple times I looked at American Home Shield and I ask myself like, "Why am I paying this money for them and these things?" I had an issue with the microwave and the people that came out scraped off the little rough end side and they painted it with regular paint. They spray painted the inside. But it was still doing the same thing. And if the paint heats up, it could be toxic. I caught the issue after 60 days and I had to pay another deductible. The next person came out that looked at it.

I kinda wanted the first contractor who came to be on the blacklist. That was one of my main reason for panicking. Sometimes, you gotta talk to your technicians because you gotta know what they did. Also, the same person broke my gas stove. Instead of fixing it or saying they had to order another one, he dropped the little thing on there. I now have a gas stove with a little peak that covered the gas part and the screw that broke off in there. American Home Shield contract people out. Without people that call and follow up, they'll never get the truth back about those contractors. That's why it's always good to have places that call and check. It's always good to have people like me that love to get feedback.

We’ve had a really good experience with American Home Shield. There was a leak of water coming out from underneath the refrigerator and it was an urgent situation. My wife works all day, while I’m disabled in here and unable to do much to clean up after a leak. AHS sent a guy out from Heritage Appliance right away and he was very professional when he pulled the refrigerator out. He said it was a hose in the back that was loose, and he fixed that and fastened it tighter to the back of the fridge to keep it from doing it again, then he left.

The next day, we realized the refrigerator was no longer leaking, but it was also no longer making ice. We can deal with that, but when I called the home warranty people, they either couldn’t get ahold of the first guy, or chose to go to Big Ten. They sent a guy named Les out and at first he was hesitant because the information in my file said it’s an LG refrigerator, but they thought it was a GE, and Les doesn’t work on LG refrigerators. I spoke to him about that and he was kind enough to come out and give it a try. He tried two or three different things and he wasn’t sure if any of them were gonna work. It was a Friday and he told me call him back on Monday morning and to let him know whether it worked or not. Over the weekend, the refrigerator started to make ice again, so it’s all fine now.

Les gets really high marks. He was out in Pickerington and he went out of his way to be available to fix a problem he shouldn’t have been assigned. Apparently, something the other guy did when he moved the fridge back caused it to block access of the water to the ice. Still, both guys were very professional. One was just successful and the other one was not. I also had American Home Shield a few years ago when we had a condo, and they have been very helpful.

The claim for the plumbing issue was an awesome experience. The first company couldn't get to me until three days later which wasn't good for me because water was leaking from my sink to my floor. When I spoke with the representative from American Home Shield and told them that, they used a subcompany that was able to get to me that same day within a couple of hours. By the time I got home, they were here. The guy took care of the issue. But the claim prior to that was awful. My experience with Bennett AC, the HVAC company that American Home Shield sent out to check my air conditioning, wasn't that great as a customer because I clearly felt that they were trying to take advantage of me as a single mother and as a woman.

I reached back out to American Home Shield and spoke with the representative once the certain part got approved. Bennett AC claimed that they needed to do all this other work and the amount of money that they were gonna charge me for the part that American Home Shield didn't cover was outrageous. The representative at American Home Shield told me that it was clear that Bennett AC was trying to take advantage of me. When I spoke with the approval agent at American Home Shield, she said that I can find another company and send them the receipt and get reimbursed. I didn't have to use that company they sent out to me. My experience with American Home Shield has been good. The problem is with some of the companies that they have in their list. Also, American Home Shield's online process in submitting a claim is not difficult but they don't have a response and I need to speak with someone.

There was a leak under the kitchen sink. I spoke to a representative at American Home Shield over the phone because I wasn't sure what the problem was. Flow Right Plumbing were the first plumbers that were recommended. I had a horrible experience with them. But then, AHS sent another plumber, LiveGreen Plumbing, and it went like soft butter. It was perfect.

With Flow Right, I kept calling back to American Home Shield saying that they weren't showing up. That went on for like a week. And the American Home Shield reps were foreign-speaking reps, and I ran into a big problem. It bothered me so bad. I woke up at 4:00 in the morning and called and got an English-speaking person. And it doesn't matter to me one way or the other as long as you go through. But the foreign-speaking reps that they had kept insisting there was nothing they could do, that I was stuck with Flow Right, and that's who the contract was with. My argument was my contract is with American Home Shield, and I have nothing to do with who they contract out. And if I'm not satisfied, I requested another contractor, and they wouldn't do it. It took me a whole week before I found someone that would do it and that would change from Flow Right to LiveGreen.

I told the English-speaking rep, "Look, I put in a complaint against Flow Right. They're not gonna come." And so, at 4 o'clock in the morning, she said, "I'm gonna send another plumber." It took me a week to get someone to listen to me because the other rep said American Home Shield kept saying they couldn't change it once the contract was put. But I knew American Home Shield could do it, which is why I kept calling back. I knew they would do it. I'm gonna stay with American Home Shield because I love them. I would recommend American Home Shield.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was due to my air conditioning system leaking water out of my basement floor. The repair technician from the company called Fast Service came the next day. It was a pretty quick response. They identified the problem and were able to fix it immediately. They also informed me of a few other potential things that might need to be repaired on in the future. They weren't there for much more than 30 minutes. It was a pretty quick process overall. My air conditioning is working and it hasn’t leaked since.

This was the second time I used my home warranty. Both times have been really good so far. This recent one was pretty efficient. I did both claims through the AHS online request portal. It was really easy. I selected the category of the part that was wrong and they contacted me letting me know they would set up an appointment through email. And within the same day, they usually let me know who the contractor was gonna be. That company usually reached out to me to let me know when the appointment was gonna be. If someone says they need a home warranty, I would probably recommend American Home Shield.

But I went down there myself and kinda fiddled around for a little bit and found a loose wire that they hadn’t found. And so, I did like a temporary fix on it and I called them up and told them what the problem was. I believe they came out and fixed it. I never heard back, but the air conditioner is still working. So, either my temporary fix is still working or they came in and finalized it.

The tech arrived like half hour before his scheduled time so I was cool with that. He came in and asked us what was wrong. He was done with his job and out the door in probably an hour and a half and made sure everything was working. We ran water through all the drains and since the repair, everything drains right.

The contractor was very professional and he did great work. His knowledge was good. He explained things very well. The best thing was that he seemed like he knew what he was doing and made it right.

American Home Shield does a real good job but it's probably more this area than them ‘cause for the well, we can’t find anybody local that’s on their list to work on it. I have two properties with American Home Shield. I submit claims online and AHS immediately sends me over a contractor and a phone number. Then, the reps say that the contractor will contact within 24 hours but I always call them anyway and get them on the schedule. As soon as I do that, AHS notifies me my scheduled date and time. I then work with the contractor and get things taken care of. They've been out to my house and have fixed the air conditioning just recently. They're coming out today to fix a couple of things. My tenant at one of my properties had an issue with their toilet so I also called about that. Everything's been excellent and I'm happy with AHS.

When I made an appointment online, I wasn't speaking to someone. I just assumed something was covered and it just turned out that particular issue was not covered in my particular policy. I type this as I continue to I have been trying to get American Home Shield to honor it's warranty contract with me for a water heater repair for over 6 months! This is the only claim I have filed since purchasing the $700 warranty coverage. After charging me the $75 service fee they assigned it to an electrician who declined to do plumbing work. Then it has remained an open ticket for the last 6 months with no communication to me.

I have called repeatedly, been disconnected repeatedly, the 24-48 hour call-back window has been consistently ignored. After threatening to sue for breach of contract I have finally received a call back stating that they are unable to find a vendor and will keep looking. They "authorized" me to locate a plumber myself without any assurance that the cost will be reimbursed. I purchased this warranty service to save having to go through arranging repair service myself. American Home Service provides NO service and, instead, increases the anxiety and burden on the homeowner!!!

American Home Shield offers little to no coverage when you read the fine print. First of all, they pick the technician to send out to you. When our A/C unit went out, I called to get someone to come out to fix it, but I wanted to use a company I have dealt with or at least had heard of. I was on the phone for over 30 minutes, and the woman told me I could call a service technician I knew of but they had to approve the company. She recommended that I at least start with the company they provide and that if I didn't like them, I could use a company I chose, pending their approval. So I agreed. It took two weeks to get a call from the A/C company to set up an appointment! They said that American Home Shield gave them the phone number of the previous owners of our home!

So we went ahead and made an appointment, and we let them come out. The technician said our unit was leaking Freon. He said he could add the amount we needed but that American Home Shield only covers $10 per pound! We had to pay the rest! That's in addition to the $75 per service call you pay. Some homeowners' coverage!

Less than a month later, our second A/C unit started doing the same thing as the first. But a technician we know told us that A/C units should not leak Freon! If they do, there is some problem causing the leak! So I called and told American Home Shield that I didn't trust the company that came out, since they didn't fix the underlying cause of the leak, and we were told it will continue to occur. I didn't want that company coming out again, so I asked if we could go ahead and pick our own technician, and I would have him call them for their approval.

This person contradicted the person I spoke with the first time and said we couldn't do that. We have to go with their technicians unless they are unavailable. It became clear to us that they only use service providers that agree to do work that costs American Home Shield as little as possible. They just fix the symptom so that by the time it occurs again, your warranty will likely be expired, unless you are dumb enough to pay them for another one!!! So after more than an hour on the phone, I told the person I wanted to speak to her supervisor. She even needed approval for that! And she put me on hold again! After about 5 more minutes on hold, they hung up on me! Some service! Terrible coverage! Waste of time and money!

    Original Review: July 15, 2019

I have been with AHS for a couple years now. Claims are very easy to submit and appointments are fairly painless to schedule. BUT the quality of service and customer service on the other hand is now. Recently (within the last 3 weeks) I have had 2 claims. One for a refrigerator and for a toilet. I will start with the fridge. It was not getting cold in the fridge portion but the freezer was fine.

The repairman came out and unblocked some-kind of drip vent that was iced over not allowing it to drain which in turn kept it from getting cold. Well I waited 48 plus hours before opening the fridge and it was not cold, it was cool but nowhere near cold enough to safely put food back in (even turned to the coldest setting) I called and they rescheduled a tech. The tech was rescheduled. They said it needed a new mother board and switch (STILL waiting on approval) but it turns out the repair company didn't submit for approval on ordering parts or even repairing until later last Friday so that explains the lapse and is not AHS' fault. Still something they should address with the repair company.

NOW on to the more pressing issue The toilet. I placed a service call for a toilet that will not allow enough water in to effective and safely use for anything other than #1. The repairman was sent (from Allstate plumbing here locally) so let's start with strike 1... the "repair guy: showed up in an unmarked vehicle with no identification and no tools in sight. Strike 2.... he spent an hour and a half here repeatedly flushing the toilet, nothing else just flushing. A few times he threw in some toilet paper, but just continued to flush.

Strike 3, he called his office and asked for assistance and told them what was happening, he was told (I could hear the conversation) that they were not equipped to do this kind of diagnostics and to tell the warranty company to call in another company to diagnose for them. Strike 3, as the repair guy left his office called me to inform me he was on his way - I in turn informed them he was leaving, and I needed more information why nothing was done further than flushing the toilet over 100 times, and that not a single tool was brought in the house. She told me they needed to have AHS approve further diagnostics but they could not provide them as they were not equipped.

Skip forward to a week later, I call (AGAIN for the 5th time) to get information, because if no one is going to fix it I want my service fee refunded so I can call in a actual plumber to come look at the toilet, I mean I could have flushed it 100 times myself, and run up the water bill for said flushes. The person I spoke to today gave me zero information, barely spoke English, and said it was not covered with the diagnosis they received. I tried to tell her that there was no diagnosis because they said they were not equipped to do so. She couldn't tell me anymore. I asked for a supervisor (the second time I have called for a supervisor and the second time I have been told that the supervisor is to busy to talk to me). I am beyond irritated at this time. I have 2 repairs that are approximately 2 weeks old that are not being done, but I have paid all of my fees. NO one seems to ever have an answer and nothing is a priority.

If the toilet isn't covered they should have said that when I told them the issue and not take my service fee. If they are unable to fix the fridge they should replace it, in a timely manner not keep stringing me along with no answers and no actions. The way all of these are being handled is awful I am an extremely unhappy customer that is looking into a new warranty company, because when the warranty company takes pride and cares about their customers the warranty is great and a life saver but when they don't do anything but take your money and not fix things and not in timely manners that is another story that I am not willing to be apart of. I just want a refund of service fees or a timely fix, is that so hard to ask for?

This company is absolutely despicable. I've had them for over 5 years and on 2 different properties - firing AHS for engaging in denial of service as well as delays in service that are designed to make the policyholders search elsewhere (not meeting their obligation). Think of it like this - you will get someone to your property but they will either say nothing is wrong or they need a part etc. If you know what the issue is, it doesn't matter - they won't bring the parts needed - they must determine it. They have left my tenants with a broken AC unit in 3 weeks and counting of 90+ degree heat.

I'm on over 4 visits (between two companies that AHS contracts with). Both of those companies have vastly different answers. The first company said nothing was wrong. The second said the capacitor was blown and that the compressor wasn't even running <-- how is that even ok? They work off the idea that you will stop pursuing their obligation due to the run-around. If you try calling, you'll be talking to someone in the Philippines - clearly they are trained to talk to frustrated policyholders and dodge responsibility using techniques such as ensuring they will take care of you by doing exactly what you can do - request a follow-up. If you ask for management, they will tell you that the manager is busy, that same person will later say that they are not allowed to transfer to a manager (contradicts their first stance), then they will put you on hold, then they will hang up.

This is the type of stuff that needs to be on the news. That is a complaint all in itself alone. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB. They have now cost me more than a policy is ever worth because they are affecting my business. STAY AWAY. If you are a lawyer or have been burnt by this company, please feel free to reach out to start a class action.

    Original Review: July 15, 2019

We had the misfortune of having our toilet leak the day after closing and we thankful to have a home warranty. We called and paid the deductible only to find out the plumbing company assigned to us had horrific (not exaggerating) reviews on Google and Yelp! I called to see if we could have another vendor come instead (also they couldn’t come to fix the problem for 5 days) and they said I must have them first come out and to call back if it’s a bad experience.

Long story short, they came to my house and said because we had cleaned up the leak and removed the broken items, that this was not something they would look at or fix unless I paid over 790 dollars!! I was shocked at their “visual diagnosis” and they asked to see my inspector report—why they would be privy to this or need this is beyond me! I left work early to accommodate their schedule, even though I called to say I would only be free after 3:30PM. I have called AHS a total of 5 times and am still awaiting a response (promised 3 calls from service agents & the authorization department). Each of the employees seem nice, but ultimately keep delaying me to call again later and that no supervisor can help me or is available. I wish I could have my deductible amount back, because I would have already paid to have this fixed! I am not pleased.

I returned from vacation earlier this week to find my house was 96 degrees inside. Phoenix temps this weeks have been exceptionally high. We are under a heat advisory because it's regularly over 110 degrees outside. So how soon could AHS send someone out? 5 days. They actually thought it was ok to tell me that I would have to wait 5 days to have it looked at. Needless to say, it's a health and safety issue when the temp is that high so I had to pay a vendor and not use the AHS service.

This evening I had a faucet break and the water could not be turned off at all. I called AHS again to see how quickly I could get service on it and I was told I needed to pay the $75 service fee and wait 24 hours for a vendor to call me to tell me what day they could come out. The rep could not tell me whether I would be waiting a day or a week or more. Again, I have to call a vendor and work outside the maintenance contract. I cannot imagine worse service. The annual service contract with this company appears to be a complete waste of money. I would not recommend them.

The representatives from the contractor came out three different times. And each time, they told me they fixed the issue and that the system was working properly now. But the first time, they said some insulation had fallen off and fell into some pan, and it clogged something. So they removed that and said everything was fine now. But it wasn't fine. That same night, it was super hot upstairs. And then the next time, the guy came in and said our drain line was clogged. He suctioned it out and said everything was fine now. But that night, it was super hot again.

When the third guy came out, he went up into the attic and said we needed additional insulation up here since we don't have enough insulation. I told him that this system has been working for 13 years and I've never had a problem, and no one's ever said I need additional insulation. So why all of a sudden now does it need additional insulation in my attic to make the AC cool? I didn't understand that. They cleared the line but that's not what the issue was, because I'm not noticing it's much cooler now.

We have three AC units, and the one that cools upstairs is not cooling like the other two are cooling. So technically, nothing has been fixed. I told that to American Home Shield and they said they would send another person out. So I had called for a fourth visit. Then I didn't respond to them because if they are gonna send the same company four times in a row, what difference are they gonna do than they did the first three times. If they don't know what they're doing, then I'm just wasting my time. Because I have to take off work, stay home and wait for them. It's been a pain. But I have no issues with American Shield itself. It's the contractor that they sent out these last three times. In the fourth call I placed, they said they couldn't change it to a different contractor because that's who's in the system. And I told them that I didn't wanna go through this a fourth. So I'm just dealing with it. You just get to a point where you get tired of it.

I was having trouble with getting air in my home. The reps of AHS were great. I told them the issue, and I told them that I had Wilson come out before. So, they connected me with them again, and it was fine. I had the owner come out and he was great. They had good customer service and they were prompt. So, I appreciated that because I’m like that. I was very satisfied.

American Home Shield had someone out here the first time because the AC was off. It was blowing cold air, and it was the heater. So, the contractor replaced something and everything was fine. And then, the second time American Home Shield had someone out here, it was because it was doing the same thing. But then, they said it was something electrical. So, they called the electrician. But it was the breaker. They moved it, so it’s working fine now. The overall claims process with American Home Shield was excellent to the point that I’m going to refer them to my mom. She has three rentals.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS AWFUL COMPANY!! We have had a washer malfunctioning for over 5 MONTHS and have not been able to get anything fixed! Hours spent on the phone with AHS "customer service" and nothing has ever been done. The contractor will not return calls or emails to AHS or to us. Meanwhile we have laundry piling up with our newborn! Was told that the issue was being sent to their "escalation department" and that the representative would "keep tabs on our account and contact me as soon as they heard anything." That was 2 1/2 WEEKS AGO!! Our contract expires in 36 days and they want us to renew?! Seems like their dragging their feet to not have to cover what's in our contract before it expires! WHAT A SCAM!!

I had a leak from my bathtub that poured through the kitchen ceiling below. I called it in 6/01/19. The plumber first said he could not work on it due to the leak caused mold. The water restoration company found no mold, and cut a 6x6 hole in the ceiling. The plumber came back 3x - but did not fix the leak! He stated he would need to refer to a specialist that can fix leaks as it was from the Whirlpool system (the tub is a Whirlpool tub). I called AHS at least 9x over the past 6 weeks, and kept getting referred to companies that said they didn't work on Whirlpools.

Finally yesterday (7/13/19) AHS stated they would not help because it SEEMS the leak is from a Whirlpool jet - which is not covered! So now I have a leaky tub, an open hole in my ceiling and 6 weeks of multiple calls and time off work - NO RESULT - POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO HELP OUT IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY! The first plumber merely said he needed to refer it out. I don't even know if it is leaking from a jet or a pipe! Not even an apology after wasting my time, money and 13 years of being a customer.

Like many of you, I signed up for AHS because I was thinking about having to replace my central air unit in the heat of summer. That was 4 years ago. Last week my 19 year old A/C unit failed and I contacted AHS. They dispatched service technician and he determined that there was a leak in a coil. The part was not in stock and to get one would take 10 days. AHS decided that they would approve the repair with the 10 day wait. I live in West Texas with daily temperatures >100 degrees, but AHS did not do as their ads would have you believe, they took the cheapest way out. Just know that when you contact them about A/C problems AHS goes into defensive mode and will screw you to the wall. I also would like you to know that their conflict resolution person kept me on hold for 30 measured minutes hoping I would hang up. I didn’t and he was totally inept. Save your money, don’t give it to AHS.

Everybody at American Home Shield has been great and I would definitely recommend them. When we had a clog in our kitchen sink, we first thought it was the garbage disposal. A garbage disposal person came out first, and that person realized it was something else and called American Home Shield on our behalf. However, there was a little bit of snafu. It was over a week after American Home Shield sent out someone and I was getting kind of upset. They couldn’t get ahold of the original company who didn’t answer for me or American Home Shield and never called to make the appointment. So, we were without a kitchen sink or a dishwasher or a garbage disposal for a full week which was not good.

American Home Shield gave us another company who made a Sunday call, and that person who couldn’t fix it with the garbage disposal actually called a plumber that was able to come out later that day on a Sunday. It did take longer than I wanted it to, but I was happy with the two people who came to the house. The quality of work is good. At first, I was not happy at all with that length of time, but I thought it was rectified. And ultimately, I don’t believe it was American Home Shield’s fault. I believe it was the first person who was contacted and I don’t know if American Home Shield has a way to monitor that contractor never made an appointment with us.

My experience with AHS is horrible. I initially placed a call on June 2nd because my air unit was leaking water in the basement and the copper tubing had ice on it. So, I called and told them. They told me someone would contact me within 24 hours. But, it wasn't 24 hours. It was more like three days. That was the first problem. When the guy came out, he told me that there was a piece that was missing from the unit, and that's why it wasn't cooling. But he didn't address the issue of the water.

So, he said, "Without that piece on there, there's no way for anybody to know how much refrigerant you have in the unit." He said, "I'm gonna put this piece on here, but you need six pounds of refrigerant." He said American Home Shield only pays $10 for each pound. And I was aware of that. So, he charged me $240 for six pounds of refrigerant.

The following day, I go on the basement, water is still dripping from the unit. So, I called American Home Shield again. They said they'd send someone else out. I said, "Could you send out someone more senior?" The person said, they'd put that in their notes. But, the next day, the same guy came out! I was kinda shocked! And he said, "What's the problem, ma'am?" I said, "The problem is still the same. I have water that's still dripping from the unit." So, he took a look at it, and he put some kind of black stuff on it like tar. It's supposed to seal it. He said, "This should set in about a couple of hours, and the water should stop." So, couple of hours went by, I decided to go down, see if it was still dripping. By this time, water is filling up. Instead of dripping, it's filling up.

So, I called American Home Shield again. I said, "Can you send out someone more senior than the person that you sent out?" But on the third time, it's the same guy. I said, "This has to be a one-man operation because here is the same guy coming three times when I specifically say to send someone with more experience!" So, he came in. He said, "What's the problem, ma'am?" I said, "The problem is now, it has exacerbated." I kept putting towels there each day and before the day was over, the towel would be just dripping wet. And I would take the towel and put it to the side and then put another one under there. So, he said, "Whoever installed it did something wrong, and there's nothing I can do about it. Your problem is normal wear and tear, and American Home Shield doesn't cover normal wear and tear."

I said, "Then why would I have a home warranty policy that doesn't cover normal wear and tear. What do they cover, abuse?" I said, "Normal wear and tear. I'm gonna have to use it! Otherwise, why would I have it if I'm not gonna use it?" So, he said, "I don't know for you then, but there's nothing I can do." So, I called American Home Shield, and they told me that they couldn't do anything until they received a diagnosis from Air Doc. Air Doc never sent in a diagnosis. And when they did reach out the first time, he told them something about I said water was dripping and that it had stopped. But the water never stopped.

They said, "We'll just wait for Air Doc to diagnose what the problem is." But Air Doc got to the point where Air Doc would not respond to anybody's call. Then, American Home Shield told me to call Air Doc. Air Doc would not respond. So, they said, "we have to wait. We're gonna submit this to the contractors' relations review." Now, we're in the second week, and it's 95 degrees.

So, I'm calling every other day just waiting and waiting for the contractors relations review. Another two weeks go by before they even respond. And they finally decided, "We're gonna send out First Choice. Someone should call you in 24 hours." Again, 24 hours went by but no call from First Choice. So, I decided to call First Choice. First Choice came out. The young man said to me, "What idiot installed this? This shouldn't have been done this way."

He said, "How much did you pay for your refrigerant?" I said, "I got six pounds, and I paid $240, so it's about $40 a pound. Maybe $50 because American Home Shield paid $10." He said, "Our refrigerant is $85 a pound." And he said, "I know what the problem is. I'm going to order the part, and I'm gonna go and pick it up. And you should have air tonight." But about 8 o'clock that night, I didn't hear from First Choice. So, I called First Choice. The guy said, "We're waiting for American Home Shield to approve of the part." I said, "But you told me you were ordering the part, you were going to pick it up! I didn't know what the procedure was!"

I thought he had made contact with American Home Shield because he did make a couple of phone calls, and I thought maybe because this was the second person for a second opinion, that they have approved of whatever was needed, and he was going to pick the part up. And he was coming by and he was gonna put it on that night. He said, "No. American Home Shield hasn't responded, so we have to wait for them to approve." The next day, I decided to call American Home Shield. And they said, "We don't have a diagnosis, so we can't approve of anything." I said, "But he told me he was waiting for you all to approve!" They said, "No. We don't have anything from them. We'll send out a message for him to contact us." So, another day goes by.

I called back. American Home Shield said, "We still don't have a diagnosis from First Choice." I said, "But why would he tell me that he was coming back to do the part, so that I would have air that same night. And he was waiting for you all."I called the next day. And then the person said, "We'll give him until Monday to call." Monday morning around 9 o'clock, I got a call from American Home Shield, and they said he just called in the diagnosis. And I said, "I don't even want him to do the work because he was very unprofessional. He's disrespectful, and now as far as I'm concerned, he was dishonest because he lied to me! I can't believe everything which he is telling me."

I said, "You want me to pay $85 a pound for refrigerant, when I paid $50 a pound with the previous contractor! So, why is yours so expensive?" Then, he tells me that he was going to have to basically rebuild the unit after he put in the evaporator coil. And then, American Home Shield told me, I would have to pay $300 for modification, $300 for refrigerant, and another $300 for something else. It came to another 150. But it came to $600 that I would have to pay out of my pocket! And I said, "I've already paid $75. I've already paid $220. And now, you wanna charge me $600 for some refrigerant that I've already paid for through a contractor that you sent out!"

The person that I was communicating with was Lisa. She said that that would be my part that I would have to pay because American Home Shield would not cover that. And I said, "Correction! I had to pay that because someone else did not correct the problem with the initial call, and now it has progressed to something else! And now, I'm supposed to pay for it! I'm supposed to suffer the consequences!"

So, then the person came back and said, "We will allow you $300 for refrigerant and something else." But the total was $700 that they would give me to get someone on my own. Before that, I said, "Something has to be done." So, I called American Home again, and the guy first told me, "We can send you a check out for this amount, and you get somebody on your own." But that amount of the check was not the same amount that they were going to pay First Choice. They were going to pay First Choice more than what they were offering me to get somebody to do the same work that First Choice was going to do, and then you were asking me to pay an additional $600! Which to me, American Home is screwing me!

Lisa came back and said, "We'll allow you," It was 1192, "And you get someone on your own to do the work, and just submit the invoice to us." And that was on the 11th of July. So, now we're going into a month and a half of me being without any air! So, then she said, it was my understanding that she was going to process the check on the 11th.

And according to an email that I saw that she sent, she supposedly processed it on the 11th, but the check was not cut until the 17th. And I got it on the 21st. So, between that time, I'm wondering, I've had the persons come out to do the work. I had to pay the person out of my pocket. Now, I don't have the check from them! So, I said, "I'm going to wait until Saturday to see if the check comes." But in between that, I've sent her an email. And I said, "What mail service did you use to send the check out?" Because I know that from the 11th until the 21st, if you put a check on the mail, I should have gotten it. It should have gone back to you if it was the wrong address, come back to me, and then that's that. They're putting me through all the stress, and on top of that, I still have time to deal with the heat. I can't sleep. I can't cook.

So, the check arrived on Saturday. I took a picture of the date on the check and the postmark. I sent her an email, and I told her I got the check and received it on Saturday. And I sent a picture, a copy of the postmark and the check through the email. American Home Shield has been horrible. It doesn't seem like I'm the first person because I talked to another person, and they told me that they had the same experience with American Home Shield. This is ridiculous here. I went a month and a half without any air, and nobody seemed to care.

When my hot water heater went out, I called American Home Shield and they had a plumber call me and schedule a service. The contractor was excellent. They had one fellow come out and look at my hot water heater. He came and told me that the unit died. He had me come down and look at it. There was water leaking from it down to the floor. He said he would contact American Home Shield and recommend a new water heater. That might’ve been on Friday. By Sunday, I had the plumber calling me to schedule an appointment for Monday. By Monday, I had my new hot water heater. It was wonderful and I was satisfied. They were very efficient and helpful. It was a very good experience.
