I called American Home Shield right away to get someone to come out to fix the backup issue with our sewer lines in the basement. They sent out Main Line Plumbing and they were great. But they took a little longer to come out than I would have liked. It was only a day but when it’s the sewer water backing up, I would’ve preferred that to be more of an emergency situation as opposed to a standard plumbing call. Other than that, everything has been fine.
Good afternoon Ryan,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

We submitted a claim online to AHS because I was going through our benefits and saw that we could rekey the house. We had recently purchased a house in April and finally got around to looking at the warranty stuff. So, I decided to get the house rekeyed. We trust the sellers, but we don't know who they gave keys to. The website of AHS was pretty straightforward. It said I'd be getting a call within 24 hours from them, to schedule an appointment. And I had a call within three hours. So, they were pretty quick to respond. My experience with AHS has been fantastic, so far. They've been really responsive and have lived up to what they said they're gonna do.
The contractor that came was fantastic as well. He was great, very friendly and very knowledgeable. He came out and explained the benefits, looked at what we wanted to do and really provided us with the best options for what was covered. And because we have more doors than were covered, we were gonna have to pay for something so he kinda did the math and poked around and figured it out. He was efficient, really nice, and it all worked out.
Hi Erick,
I am glad to hear about your experiene with using the online portal. Your feedback is more than appreciated and I hope you continue to enjoy your AHS home warranty!

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and had someone come out to fix my garbage disposal as well as the toilet in my master bedroom. The claims process was quick and easy. Immediately I received notification that they received it. Within three hours, I received a notification on when the appointment would be made. Thereafter, the techs who came were very respectful and explained everything that they were doing. There were no surprises. It’s the third time or fourth time I’ve had this issue and this is the first vendor or contractor that’s come out and actually replaced. Since then, everything has been good.

It's the worst experience I've had with a company. I called American Home Shield about three weeks ago to set up a service date for my washing machine. They set up an appointment about a week after the call with this subcontractor that they use called Accord Appliance. When Accord Appliance came out during the first visit, I was telling them that I was having some leakage from my washing machine and showed them where I was having the leakage from. After looking at it, the person said he couldn't do anything about it that day and that he had to go and order a part. He also said they'd be back in touch with me once they got the part, and they'd get set it back up another visit.
They contacted me probably about almost a week later saying that they had the part. They were gonna come back out and fix the machine. They came back out and supposedly fixed it with the part in. When they left within the hour, I set a low end for my washing machine to wash, and I was still having leakage from it. I called American Home Shield back and I told them that the man had just left there about an hour before and that my machine was still leaking. They said they'd have to set up another work order for that company to come back out again and that I should hear from Accord Appliance within 24 hours. This was probably August the 1st. I hadn't heard from anybody so I called American Home Shield back and when I did, they pulled up my contract and wanted to tell me that the service call was canceled.
I asked who cancelled it and they said they received a notice back from Accord Appliance that someone had canceled the call. I told them Accord has never called me and I haven't canceled anything. At that point, I wanted to talk to a supervisor and the gentleman on the call didn't wanna transfer me to a supervisor. We went around the barn forever on that one. He said, "Well, let me look and see if we've got anybody." He left me on the phone for about 45 minutes. He finally came back and said there was no one available right then. I told him, "Listen here, sir. I know you've got supervisors on that floor. I'm going to wind up waiting, and I want someone to come on the phone. I don't wanna be on the phone as long as I've been this last time without somebody coming back telling me what's going on." He got off the phone and put me on hold again.
In the meantime, I wound up calling Accord Appliance. I looked up their address on Google. The other thing that the American Home Shield guy told me too before I called Accord was he tried to call Accord and nobody answered the phone over there. When I told Accord what American Home Shield had told me, they claimed that they didn't cancel the call. They claimed that American Home Shield canceled it. They also claimed that they had gotten a work order again around 6:00 p.m. on August the 1st, and they said that by 7:30 that same day American Home Shield faxed them over something saying that the order had been canceled. Accord said at that point, they couldn't do anything else about it because they didn't have a work order. They said I'd have to contact American Home Shield again.
I called American Home Shield back. They turned around and said they'd send a new work order over and I should hear from Accord in 24 hours. This was on Monday the 5th. The 6th came about, nobody called. Yesterday was the 7th, and I called them back and told them no one has called me from Accord. The guy put me on hold then he supposedly called Accord. When he came back on the phone, he said, "I just spoke to somebody at Accord named Sophia. She should be calling you right back, right now." I got off the phone but Sophia never called. I waited about three hours. I called Accord and spoke to Sophia. She said they got the work order and they got me scheduled up for August the 13th between 8:00 and 12:00. I asked why didn't she call me back right away after the man I spoke to at American Home Shield. She said she got busy and couldn't do it.
I went back on their website 'cause I was disenchanted with Accord by that time. I looked at all of their bad reviews. Most of their reviews on a scale of 0 to 5 were 1 and I happened to read some of them. One of the ones that I read said that they were operating under an inactive business license since May the 1st, 2019. I called the California State Business License Office and I gave them their license number. They sure enough told me that their business license was inactive. They said American Home Shield should not even be using them as one of their contractors to go out and fix people's appliances.
I turned around and called American Home Shield back, and I told them what had happened. I also told them that I did not want Accord Appliance coming to my house because they're operating under an inactive business license. At first, they didn't want to give me another contractor and I know it's because I had already paid my money to them for the service call. I told them I'd report them to the California State Business License Office, to the Better Business Bureau, and to the news media about their practices.
The person got off the line and got a supervisor this time. The supervisor that I spoke to at American Home Shield, Marcus, acted like he was all nice. He said, "We'll I'm gonna grant you this one-time courtesy, and we'll get another contractor by and out to fix your washing machine." I said, "I don't wanna hear about the one-time courtesy mess. It's your fault that you don't know that the people you're sending out have their license inactive. If I ask for something else to be fixed in my home down the road and you send me another person with a license that's inactive, I'm gonna refuse them."
He said they were gonna send somebody else out. He was gonna escalate this up to the contractors dispatch team and I'd receive an email from them stating who my new contractor is and all of that. I got off the phone with him and about an hour or two later, I checked my email. Sure enough, they said they've assigned me another contractor. When I opened the email, it was Accord Appliance again! That's when I called them back again. I was frustrated and said I had spoken with somebody a couple of hours ago who said that they were gonna assign me a new contractor but it's the same people that they have sent the first time.
The last person I spoke to from American Home Shield was a nice young lady. Her name was Kassandra. Once I shared all of this stuff with her, she didn't even escalate me to another supervisor or anything. She wound up putting me on hold. She contacted another contractor named Savvytech, and she got me an appointment set up for today. She gave me the name of the technician that would be coming out. She also gave me his phone number. She said, "This is who you need to contact if you don't hear from them but they'd be out there at a certain time today." That's where it ended.
I'm upset at American Home Shield because I've been going back and forth with them since last Thursday. I'm upset at Accord too. I don't wanna deal with this stuff when I'm paying my money to American Home Shield every single month for my home warranty. I don't wanna have to go through all of this kind of stuff every time I have to get something fixed. I don't wanna go through the customer service representatives who wind up not wanting to pass me on to supervisors, who can't solve the problem, and who lie. Accord was lying or American Home Shield was lying. And American Home Shield is definitely lying in the fact that what they told me they were gonna do, they haven't done. They didn't do it until I finally talked to that person, Kassandra. American Home Shield shouldn't be using people whose business license are inactive. They should know whether or not their contractors' licenses are active.

My husband filed a claim with AHS online for a dryer and it was very easy. We notified them on a Saturday evening and we heard back first thing Monday morning. But we got an email from the company saying that someone would be calling us. And that happened the same day so the response was very quick. They're not in Stafford everyday, so it was three days from contact to when they were here to fix it. I would've loved it the same day but it was the weekend. We were still very satisfied with the work that was done. The longest we ever waited was six weeks, and that was crazy. But this, they had the part on the truck and the guy was great. He was able to fix it right away. He even showed me the broken part.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a plumbing leak under the kitchen sink. The cold water in to my refrigerator sprung a leak. Doing the claim was very easy. It happened on a Sunday, and NW Sundance Services came out on a Thursday. I was a little bummed about that but I get it. If you're paying cash, I'm sure you can get a plumber out immediately. Still, my experience was great. The contractor did a great job. It was supposed to be an easy fix, and it turned into a little more than he wanted because one thing worked for a second, then it was still leaking. He tried another thing, and then, it still leaked. So he goes, "You know something? I'm just gonna replace this, this and this, and be done with it." And I said that was great.

With my refrigerator, there was a water dispenser and it was not working. Now everything is perfect. He’s come out before to my house, so he’s really good. Very knowledgeable, nice and professional.

We had a clothes washer repair done through American Home Shield. I went online and submitted a request. We got the American Home Shield notice by email that said we should hear from someone, and we did hear from someone that same day. Then I talked to him on the phone, and we talked about what was happening, and we scheduled. The contractor was very responsive. And he came out and did an analysis, and said, “Here’s what’s wrong. I’m gonna need to go back to AHS and find out whether or not they’ll approve the repair. In the meantime, I did this to it, which will make it possible for you to use it temporarily.” That all worked out great. And in about two days later, I heard back from him that American Home Shield had approved the repair.
He had ordered the parts, and he would let me know when they were in. About four days later, he said, "The parts are here. Would you like to schedule me to come out and make the repair?” We were on vacation and I said, “Call me in a week. I’ll be back home.” And he did call me right on the day, made an appointment to come out within a couple of days, fixed the washer, and it’s been working great ever since.
Hi Cheryl,

My neighbor had a warranty and I figured I would go ahead and do it too because she was telling me how good it was. I’ve been with American Home Shield for about five years and I have two houses under the policy. I used to call over the phone when submitting a claim but it was difficult to get somebody to answer. I normally submit my claims online now and the website is fine. So far, it’s been working. When we put a claim in, we would be contacted within 24 hours and the contractor would come when they say they would. They would also call me before they come. Sometimes it would be 48 hours, but they usually do it quickly. The warranty is valuable to have and it’s good for people to join American Home Shield.

There was a small leak in my bathroom faucet and it progressed to getting more and more. I was initially gonna do the claim online but I went ahead and called American Home Shield because I wanted to make sure. I didn't know how long it was gonna take for someone to come out to my house. I wanted to make arrangements to work. The lady that I spoke to attended to me and she was wonderful. She said she would get somebody to call me back, gave me a confirmation number and gave me the number of the plumber that was gonna take my call.
Midtown Plumbing was our contractor for this claim and they were good. They came out and explained everything that they needed to do and how they were gonna do it. They said it wasn't gonna take long and they would get me up and running in no time. They fixed the problem. Evidently, the screw had watered out for the handle and they had to replace it. It was really good and there are no more leaks. But I was just gonna call them and question why I lacked water pressure although I think it's because of the line breakages around here. Other than that, things are better now because we don't have to hear the drip at night. Before the repair, we actually put in a little galloon on there. We were constantly getting up in the middle of the night and serving the water wherever we could put it like on the plants.

I had a service call on my (warranty-covered) washing machine. The technician from a local appliance repair company came out and identified a couple of parts that needed to be replaced, and said that this information would be forwarded to AHS. AHS then decided on their own that the machine had been abused/overloaded, and thus the repair was not covered by the warranty. Note that this was a determination made by AHS, not by a technician who physically inspected the machine. AHS thus refuses to pay for repairs to the machine. I'll do that myself, with the money I'll save from canceling the AHS warranty. I absolutely cannot recommend getting a warranty from them: You're betting all your warranty and service call costs on the chance that they will actually cover a repair... Which is much less likely given that such decision is made by an office clerk who is probably graded on how many claims s/he refuses.
Richard,

I called another repair company to fix the refrigerator, which they did and AHS refuse to reimburse me. The stove is still not fixed as they said it was cosmetic, the other repair company I called said it was the electrical. I have consistently tried to speak with a manager regarding my issues and no return call or EVER available. They then tried to bill me for a cancellation fee of 1 month plus the monthly fee. They have the worst customer service, follow-up and service in a timely manner. The one item they were able to fix, it took 2 weeks with no communication.

AHS CLAIMS to fix or replace equipment that you're experiencing a problem within your home. My recent experience with an AC unit was a broken coil. The AHS contractor told me is was roughly $1,800 to $3,000 to fix the problem. AHS contacted us and told us our part would be $800-$900. We thought we just paid the $75 contractor fee as mentioned in the literature. They then began to tell us about MODIFICATIONS???? We decided to replace the unit because it was old. AHS gave us a $400 buyout. I don't think that qualifies as fix or replace. We have talked with friends who have had similar experiences with AHS. Their quote "they never pay for anything."

This past week our water heater tank developed a leak. We contacted American Home Shield to determine if any part of this would be covered as we knew the solar water heaters were not. The chat person notified us that as long as the components to the solar portion was not affected that the tank would be covered. I called the next day and the representative scheduled the appointment. This person did not clarify that any solar water heater would not be covered and sent a tech out. I told the tech via text that this was a solar water heater before he came out as well and he did not notify me of any issues related to it being solar and not being covered either (but this is an AHS issue, not the tech). He came and the solar water heater tank was not covered.
I contacted AHS and they would not refund me the $100 that was their mistake. Looking for another home warranty. I didn't ask for coverage of the heater, just my money back for their error. I should have known they just want your money when that is the first thing they do is ask for a payment form before you are even asked to schedule an appointment - very distasteful in my opinion. Needless to say, researching new companies.

I have been tossed between 2 to 3 different contractors, one of which flooded my house while trying to repair the washer. I have called customer service several times and every time I am told a different story and when I demanded to speak with a supervisor, they take my number to call me back but no one calls me and if I do end up getting a call, it is the next day while I am at work. I always go online when submitting claims with AHS. I don’t like their phone service. Unless you call at midnight or maybe at four o’clock in the morning, you can never get through. They have to put you on 45 minutes to an hour wait. When the motor in our AC stopped running, I filed an online claim with American Home Shield and they sent out Choice Electric. They’ve been out to check our furnace and stuff like that before. So I had confidence in them. The motor had to be replaced and they were able to fix everything on the same day. The washer was not draining properly so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. A guy from Premier Appliance Repair came out, took one look at it, and told me that it was a full-sized washer and dryer on top of each other, so there wasn’t a lot he would be able to do. I told him I explained that to them and he said he could open up the front panel and that was about all he would be able to do for me. So I was very unhappy with him. And then when he left, all of a sudden I had all this water in the drain pan below and then I had all those green stuff. I called him back on a Monday and he said he couldn’t get here until Friday. So that didn't work out.
I called American Home Shield and told them I needed someone else and they said I have to have the other person tell them that. So, I called Premier and it was just a big mess. Finally, I got somebody else to come out and he said he was not sure he would report to them. He thought it was probably my bearings and they would have to schedule me.
It has been a month without the washer and dryer. I’m not even calling American Home Shield anymore because unless they say it’s not fixable, they’re gonna try to fix it. The guy says it’s the bearing, but after that, I don’t know what could happen. If it takes two or three companies to come out here because these are sitting on top of each other, I’m just buying a new washer and dryer. I’ve had small claims like a small electrical thing and the toilets when I first moved in and those were fine. But this is the biggest thing and it wasn’t a good experience.

My water heater wasn't producing hot water. There was a small electrical fire with the wires and it was leaking water. I made a claim online with American Home Shield and their website was user-friendly. It was also easy to fill out. But the site was not super clear on being able to describe the issue. There was also the uncertainty of what was going on when you're not talking to someone live. This happened on a Friday night. Aside from my online claim, I also called American Home Shield that night and asked when I would be hearing back. I thought they said within four hours. That kind of threw me off because I didn't hear anything back and I had to follow up on Monday. I ended up having to call in.
I had worked with John on our heating and air previously, but not through American Home Shield. He just does heating and air work too. He told me that he works with American Home Shield too so I recommended that American Home Shield use him if possible. They actually approved that he be the one to do the work on my water heater. John was very professional and responsive. He was on time and he did great work. Overall, I had a positive experience, specifically with the provider. He fixed the issue quickly so we could get hot water back.

The plumber from AM/PM Plumbing called and was able to come early, and that was awesome. And then, when he got here, he diagnosed the problem, figured out what needed to be repaired, and the repair was done and over with before the scheduled time that he even had been promised. So, I’m very pleased with their work. Also, the plumber was professional. He was dressed in a uniform that had the company logos on it so he was easily identifiable, presented his I.D. and then all of his paperwork bore its company insignias. So, I was very comfortable working with him.
Usually, I call American Home Shield to file my claims. But this time, I went through the website. And that was definitely a different experience. At first, I was a little leery because I didn’t get any confirmation that I was gonna be contacted. But then, they reached out immediately. So, it was prompt and the service that I got was excellent. I previously used 2-10 Home Warranty, but after using American Home Shield services for the first time, I’m definitely a customer for the duration.

I’ve called AHS three times separately to fix the issue on my account being under the name of a different person. I told them that they take the money right out of my account every month and they’ve never bolted from coming out and giving the service, but they couldn't get the account in the right name and it's an irritation. But other than that, I've had no problems with them.
Recently, I started to get a slow leak in an older washer. The washer would run, but it had a slow little water leak. I submitted a claim with AHS online and their website was easy to use. It's user-friendly and asks very few questions. It's pretty self-explanatory, too. Then I was told that I'd hear from the contractor, A Plus Appliances, within the first 24 hours to schedule the service, and I did. But it took a couple of days longer to get them out here. They were swamped, so it took them about four days to get out here. And when they got here, they had to order the pump which took an additional week to arrive. In the mean time, the washer was still working and I was able to use it. In fact, they told me that it was not gonna hurt if I used it.
All in all, I’ve had AHS for 21 years and overall, I'm satisfied with them. But I never had to wait that long to get somebody out here. Neither have I had to wait a week for a part to be put in. I saw that A Plus Appliances ordered the part from Amazon, so it could’ve gotten to them in two days. And yet, it still took them a week to get back out here to fix the leak, because they were so back logged. In the end, A Plus Appliances got the job done. They were good and very polite, too. Plus, the tech that came out was great.

I’ve always recommended American Home Shield. I was at my other house for 15 years, and I’ve been in this house for eight. Once, I had an issue with B&L Plumbing and Home Shield said they’ll follow up on me, but I left them before I got any type of resolution. My premium then went up considerably, and my copay went up as well. Price didn’t match service and after two different companies, I ended up coming back. Apart from having to go crunch every month when $113 comes out of my account, everything since I’ve been back has been fine. Recently, I used them and they put me up with a company that never called me back and AHS called me and changed it to Steinmetz. My husband was home and they came right out. They diagnosed the problem and corrected it.

I would highly recommend Home Shield. I had them before at my other house, and they were really good. Home Shield is the best. Unfortunately, everything is doing very well at the house, so I’m paying Home Shield for nothing, but that’s okay. Accidents can happen. My most recent claim with them turned out to be a sequin stuck in the dryer. It was kind of embarrassing. But the guy who came was very professional and did a great job. He explained everything. Before I had a chance to voice my concern, he kinda knew about it. And he put on like these little mitts and it’s kinda neat. So, my experience is all positive. He would just pull a sequin out, and the dryer is like it’s always been. So, it’s going good.

My son and I had been in Virginia for two weeks because of the passing of my husband. When we came back, we had laundry and I put my clothes in the washer. Everything worked fine. When I got ready to put them in the dryer and turn my knob to start the dryer, the dryer wouldn’t come on. I filed the claim online and it was easy. I got an email then I went back a few minutes later and I saw the claim had already been assigned. Just a few minutes later, the lady at that place called me and went ahead and scheduled the appointment for the contractor. I also really like the website of American Home Shield. The navigation of it is very simple in terms of the quickness of assigning the claim and then putting the information out there so you know who’s calling. In the event somebody wants to get your information and try to screw you over, you know who you’re talking to and dealing with. That’s very important to me.
The guy from Applifix Heating and Appliances was running a little bit late for the schedule but he had the decency and courtesy to call me and say so. He said that prior job had taken him a little bit longer but he was not far out. He explained where he was at. And that meant a lot to me. Then when he got here, I showed him where the dryer was. He had also called, wanting the serial number off of the dryer. He thought he knew what the issue was just by me explaining what had happened. I gave him the serial number and he said he was gonna bring the part in case we needed a timer too. He thought it was just the knob but he said we were gonna be safe about it. When he took the machine apart, he saw what the issue was and explained every step he did. He cleaned the machine out too, which he didn’t have to do, but I certainly appreciated it.
I’m not originally from Arizona so I don’t know that many people here. You never know whether you’re gonna get a good contractor or a bad contractor and they can take you for a wild ride. Just with the communication, I cannot see this guy that came out here ever doing that to anyone, as honest and detailed as he was, telling me exactly what he was doing and what he thought it was. The professionalism of the recent experience was outstanding. My interaction with him was amazing. I'm happy.

American Home Shield sent out Prestige Plumbing for the shower leak. The shower was leaking when I open the hot water and the tech fixed it three times. He was a nice guy and he did a good job. But every time he try to fix it, it was just the washer. I told him that I didn’t need a washer. I need to replace the part inside because every time he goes, it leaks again after two weeks. It's the same problem. I've called him three times already and he got mad last time. I told him that from the very beginning, the problem was not the washer. The problem is the part inside. It’s the piece of metal that he should change, then that’s it. The washer with the heat is gonna be damaged again, then it’s gonna be the same problem, then I gonna call him back. He said no and that he thinks the problem is the washer. So I recommended to American Home Shield that they send somebody else next time.
When I had an issue with my ceiling fan last year, the contractor that came out said the fan was loose and he cannot fix it because they had to make sure that it was attached good to the ceiling. I told him that the fan is attached good to the ceiling, but it is not working. I ended up fixing the fan. American Home Shield is a good company and I like them. I’ve been with them for almost 10 years and I don’t wanna change it. But every time the technician come in to fix something, they say, “Oh, this is not covered. This is covered. This is not covered.” Or “I cannot do it.” Most of them, when they come into the house, they don’t fix enough, and then they leave all because it’s not covered. It seems like there’s nothing covered under the insurance.

My recent claim experience with American Home Shield where Plumbers Inc. came out worked out great. First, I had a guy come out. Our water heater was not working right and he told us that there was nothing wrong with it but that the pilot just wasn’t lit and he left. The pilot went out right after he left. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent out Plumbers Inc. because I had used them before. And they came out and said that the water heater needed to be replaced completely, which was completely different with what the other guy said. And they were on it in a second. They kept tabs with me on when they could bring one out, which took a few days. It wasn’t immediate, but they were on like letting me know what the time frame was, which was all I could ask for. We had to do with cold water for a few days, but it’s okay as long as we know.
When they came back out, they installed it in a timely fashion. It works perfect, and I was very happy with them as I was the first time. When they came out the first time, we had a leak in our ceiling and it was the bathtub upstairs that was leaking. And they fixed that. So, American Home Shield has been great on everything I’ve called them on. They've been very good for us. I was very impressed. My daughter wanted to get it and I was very hesitant because sometimes it doesn’t work out right. But she was right. It was good.

Original Review: July 25, 2019
My air conditioner didn’t work and I’ve been having problems for months. First it was the heater but a different company came out, and they apparently didn’t do a very good job and ended up losing all the Freon out of the system when they were finished. It has cost me a lot of money. So, I re-log a call. Months go by and it was getting warm, and my kids were complaining it was getting hot upstairs. I looked, and sure enough, it was 90-somewhat degrees in their bedrooms. The air conditioner was blowing air, but it was not cold.
American Home Shield sent out different companies but it’s not fixed. The owner of Fick’s Mechanical, Mike, came out and looked at everything. He said the system doesn’t have any Freon left in it because the previous people didn’t button it up tight. That wrecked my outside unit completely. He looked at the main inside unit which was from 1979. He said the whole thing’s gotta be replaced. He looked at the wiring and it, again, was from 1979. It was aluminum and one can’t use them to wire up the blower and the heat exchange units anymore so that had to replaced. They replaced that.
About three weeks went by and I noticed that the air conditioning was not working again. I went online and created a trouble ticket. I made a mistake and this is where my problem with American Home Shield begins. The first trouble ticket for the air conditioner which is the one back in March was for the heat exchanging systems so it’s the same thing. When I opened up the trouble ticket for air conditioning, I went outside and I thought the outside unit was maybe not working. I went on the website to create a ticket, saw heat exchanger and I just put a checkmark and put it on. After that, a guy came out and he did the thing. Then three weeks later, I was not getting air conditioning again. This time, when I went on the website, foolishly, I didn’t think about what I put on the trouble call almost a month earlier. I thought the the air con was not working so I put air conditioner.
A few hours later, I got a call from Fick’s Mechanical saying they got my ticket and they were gonna come out the next morning, 8:00 AM. I called American Home Shield and said, “Hey, they’re gonna come back out. You guys aren’t gonna charge me ‘cause it’s the same ticket, right?” They said they were gonna charge me again. I asked why and they said one is the heat exchanger and one is the AC. I’m not an HVAC guy. I just knew the heat was not working so it was what I put on. They said, “I don’t care. We’re gonna charge $75 or cancel the call, and then you can resubmit it.”
Fick’s Mechanical came out and when they put the system in, the guy told me, “I don’t carry a good system, by the way. It’s new and better than the ones you have which is 40 years old, but it’s a cheap system.” Sure enough, within a week, it was not working. They came back out. The first time he came out, it just wasn’t working. There was a relay switch that was fried. He showed it to me and said, “Look, it’s all black. You must’ve had a power surge or something.” On Thursday there was a big lightning storm and I didn’t notice that it started blowing hot air. He went to replace it then he left. This was around noon on Tuesday.
By 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, my 12 year-old son heard banging around the house. The sound was from the heating itself. I called Fick’s and told them it was broken again. They said they'd see if Gavin, the HVAC guy, could come back out on his way home. Sure enough, he came out at 6:00 PM and said the entire circuit board was bad and he had to replace it. He had to order it and bypassed it so that the compressor would work and we'd have air conditioner. But it’s been a week and a half and I have not heard from them.
My dissatisfaction with American Home Shield goes back two years. I’ve been a customer for 19 years and two years ago they hung me up to dry. They did not stand by me. I had my dishwasher stopped working. It was a pretty minor thing. I logged a call, they sent Sears, and Sears sent a young kid. Through his incompetence and not following procedure, he ended up destroying my kitchen. He said it was this little circuit board on the door and he replaced it. He also said there was something else which was the pump. The next thing I knew, the dishwasher was pulled out on the floor.
When he pulled it out, there was a copper pipe that ran from the dishwasher behind all my counters to where the sink is. It was dripping because it bent as he pulled the dishwasher out. He didn’t know what he was doing. He said it must be mice that chew through my pipe. I’m pretty sure mice don’t eat copper. When he pulled the dishwasher out, he also scratched the floor. He covered it up with one of his corporate moving blankets. When he left, I told him, “Don’t touch it. Just leave it there. I’ll figure out what’s gonna happen.” I’m a single dad with young kids. It’s hard to deal without a kitchen. I ended up washing dishes in the bath tub in the first-floor bathroom. I called and complained, and his supervisor from Sears came out the next day. He took some pictures. He asked if I signed a waiver. When I asked what the waiver was for, he said, “We’re not allowed to pull any equipment out without a waiver because things like this happen.”
I called American Home Shield and they said, “That’s not our problem. You gotta take it up with them.” I said, “Well, okay. But I thought you were in my corner? I thought this is what I’m paying you for, to be my advocate? You’re the middleman between me and some chuck in a truck, right? And if the guy screws up, then you need to play hard ** because who am I? I’m just one guy against Sears.” They wouldn’t help. I ended up getting in touch with their insurance company and it took me 10 months to get any money. I have an almost 30-page document because the insurance company told me they don’t give anything unless I provide for them two estimates for everything that needed to be done.
Getting estimates for each part is hard because nobody wants to come out to replace two boards. It’s not worth it. When I got a plumber to come out to replace the pipes, he said it had to be unbroken piece from the dishwasher where it hides into the house piping. It meant all the counters had to come out which also meant the countertop had to come out. I’m raising hell with American Home Shield for hanging me up to dry and not standing behind me. In the end, the cheapest estimate I had from a general contractor who would handle the plumber, the electrician, the dishwasher, the replacement countertop, and replacing four cabinets was $14,000 in change, which I was told was pretty good for basically half of a new kitchen.
We bought cabinets not put together, had them shipped to the house, glued them together and built them. We did as much of the work as we could ourselves. My total bill was around 11 and they gave me a check for 7 so I have $4,000 out-of-pocket to get my kitchen back working so I’m not washing dishes in the bathtub. Although I’m grateful for American Home Shield being there for the simple stuff, they don’t know how to handle this. I would pay more money per month if they would give me a kind of service and coverage that I thought I was supposed to have. I’m very happy with them, but if there was an alternative, I’d switch in a heartbeat. I told them that it seems I’m a captive or a hostage and there’s nothing I can do. I would like them to stand behind their customers. It’s all I ask.
Dan,
Thanks for allowing me to assist you with your request. I am glad we were able to agree on a Resolution. You will receive a short questionnaire via email, please give us your new feedback.

The AC was blowing hot air and I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I find it easier to do it that way. My upstairs AC went out first and it took two days to get the contractor out. Then, the second AC problem was three days later. So, a combination of both repairs took two weeks. My house was built in 2002, so my AC units were original and getting parts for an AC unit that is 17 years old was a little hard. They had to find a compressor that was compatible from the AC folks. Those AC folks were extremely nice, very professional, polite and clean. Everything seems to be working fine but the second AC problem was within 48 hours and I paid another $100 deductible. It was the same issue with a different unit.

It was working but the next day, it started making a weird noise again. But now, everything's good.

However, AHS said the plumber would give us a call within 24 hours but they didn't. We had to call them back again two or three days later.

The contractor that AHS sent was awesome. They came out and fixed my refrigerator. They've actually been out a few times for different appliances and they've always done a really good job. The last one was the ice maker was not working on the refrigerator. He pulled the ice maker out and looked at the different pieces to decide what was not working. He thawed out the frozen areas. And then he pulled the refrigerator out, and he cleared some tubes and made sure that the filters were working correctly. And then it started working again. It seems to be working well now.

I placed a called on July 18th for my air conditioner. I live in San Antonio, TX so it's hot. The technician said 2 - 5 days for the part and that he had ordered the part. I check status today with AHS, and was told that they ordered the part YESTERDAY, 7/23. They claim they are waiting on the vendor to give them a receipt date. But they didn't order the part until 5 days after I placed the call in the first place! So now I and my wife (both senior citizens) have to be in the July Texas heat with no air conditioning because AHS can't honor the agreement that I have religiously paid for monthly. Getting a supervisor on the phone was like pulling teeth from an intoxicated hippo (very difficult) and the customer services reps just kept reading from their little script (laughing in the background, they didn't think that I could hear them) with no real intent or effort to help the customer.
The thing is, I run a worldwide technical support center, so I know the game that the reps played (which NO ONE on my team does). This is one (if not the) most pitiful examples of phone customer service, and definitely THE most pitiful example of overall customer service. Upon my contract termination, AHS is done. STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!

If I could give lower than one star, I would. I have had nothing but problems with this warranty company and I have dealt with a lot of different warranty companies over the years. This company is by far the worst. This warranty is on a rental property I have that is currently an assisted living/personal care home. When replacing my dishwasher, they refused to finish the install because of the flooring, not to mention it took them 8 weeks to figure out the dishwasher even needed to be replaced. I had to hire an outside person to install the dishwasher after a new one was delivered because the contractor for the warranty company refused to adjust the footers on the old dishwasher and slide it out. I had to pay $200 to get it installed on my own.
The stovetop caught fire and we had an electrician come out and investigate, he said it needed to be replaced. The contractor sent out by the warranty company still hasn't fixed it 20 days later, we just replaced it at our own cost as these people need to eat and we are not waiting any longer. The A/C broke down in 94 degree plus weather and we called in an emergency ticket on a Saturday morning. Well the contractor, didn't even call us until Monday and wanted an additional $125 to come out on that day on an expedited timeframe, we had already paid AHS the $125 service fee, so they wanted more money.
We had hired an outside contractor to have it fixed already anyway because the residents are elderly. Now I can't get AHS to return my $125 despite calling them for the last 2 weeks. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY, THEY DO NOT OPERATE WITH ANY KIND OF INTEGRITY. I have used them for 2 years and have yet to get anything done on a timely basis.

I had the WORST possible experience with this company. During a current heat wave, my AC unit went out, so I requested a service call. AHS said that since it was a weekend, and their first contractor did not work weekends, that I would have to wait 4 days until they could schedule me. I stated that it was 87 degrees and climbing in my house, and was told AHS will not consider anything an emergency unless it is a reported 105 degrees from a weather service. I tried to go ahead, but asked the AC company to wait on scheduling, while I tried to get AHS to schedule a different service provider to provide relief, but was told again and again (by AHS), I would need to wait 4 days.
I asked my AHS operator many, many, many times, to speak to a supervisor - and was denied, every single time. The operator would not help me, and only repeated herself over and over again... despite me asking to speak to someone else, she would not allow me to do so - she simply put me on hold, then returned to say the same thing to me again and again. Then she said she contacted the service provider and booked my service for 4 days out - which was still terrible, but I was stuck, so accepted it.
Well, today was the day the company was supposed to come out to service me, and no one came... So I called, and they said they did NOT have an appointment - so not only did the AHS operator prevent me from talking to any type of supervisor, she lied to me about booking my service, and actually did nothing. I had to book my own service today, and it put the call out 3 more days - meaning, an entire week will pass before I get any help at all, and it is 100% AHS's fault. This company completely abandoned me when I needed them most, and I couldn't be more unhappy with the complete lack of customer service I received from their obviously offshore, and disinterested call center.

I have been a AHS customer for 1.5 yrs & am currently going through a nightmare scenario. First let me state that I live in central FL, which suffice it to say is hot in July and I’ve had A/C problems since Apr. But now I am experiencing the “perfect storm” of AHS contract technicalities. As background, my A/C stopped cooling in Apr, 2019. A tech from World Class A/C was dispatched 4/19 & concluded the cause was due to lack of refrigerant & added 3 lbs. A/C again stopped cooling in May and AHS dispatched another World Class tech who on 5/25 concluded that there must be a leak due to low refrigerant level. After searching he found a pinpoint leak just outside the air handler. He returned on 5/28 to repair the leak and added $500 worth of refrigerant (10 lbs). On 6/20, same cooling problems arose & I submitted a 3rd service request the next morning (7/21).
At approx. 4:00 pm that same day, I heard a pop sound from my circuit breaker panel & all power to the house went out. I called AHS to generate a new service request & due to the emergency nature (i.e. smoke emanating from the breaker panel), AHS was very helpful & OK’d an emergency dispatch. That evening a tech from R&R Electric was dispatched and eventually discovered that the A/C breaker burned up and therefore made an assumption that it may have been caused by something related to my current A/C problem. Note, he did not state this as fact, but the theory seemed credible & on 7/22 he subsequently submitted an authorization request to AHS for panel replacement with that assumption.
Today, 7/24 I called AHS for a status of that electric authorization request to find it hand been denied for the following reason: the breaker damage was caused by the “caused by other system” (the A/C) & therefore not covered in my warranty. I then spoke with “Ace” in the AHS escalation dept. He told me that because R&R electric stated the possible cause of damage being related the A/C itself & not normal “wear & tear”, they denied the request stating the A/C company will need to come out to address the breaker panel issue.
Here are my problems: 1) The internal temperature in my house is and has been 86 degrees for almost 72 hours; 2) I’ve delayed the A/C dispatch knowing that the breaker problem had to be resolved before the A/C tech could investigate that problem. 3) A/C tech will not arrive until 7/26. 3) As I argued with the escalation dept. just as with the electric tech, the A/C tech will not be able to definitively determined that the breaker issue was caused by the A/C. What happens then regarding my coverage? Am I stuck waiting several more days while that’s worked out while I swelter in the central Florida heat (I’m retired and cannot afford a lengthy hotel stay).
Bottom-line is, no technician, A/C or electric can know for sure the cause of the breaker failure. (I’m not an electrician, but in my mind if a breaker doesn’t simply trip off, it has failed, which means “wear & tear”.) I have therefore instructed R&R Electric to initiate the process (i.e. secure permit & materials) to replace the breaker panel as required and can only hope that AHS cease this game of words (i.e. “wear & tear” vs. “caused by another system”) will resolve this matter by covering per my home warranty. And my hope is that AHS will reach out to offer assistance as I see they do on the other negative reviews on this site. And finally, yes I am very angry about this whole unfortunate experience and if resolution is not reached to my satisfaction, I will pursue other means via BBB & possible legal action while I ensure I share AHS’s horrific handling of this matter on every “reviews” website I can find.

First, let me say I am a realtor at a prominent real estate company, and up until this month, I have always recommended to my clients they should seek a policy with AHS. That my friends, has come to a CRASHING halt! On July 4th I placed a service request for my kitchen refrigerator/freezer that quit working. It is now July 23rd and it still does NOT work! They have lied to me regarding no request for replacement being made, when I have in fact requested 3 times as well as the repair company that has been out to my home 4 times now, put in a request for replacement of the unit twice.
Each time I call, I am treated rudely and I have been a customer of there's for over 25 years now. I requested a tracking number for the new parts that had to be ordered and they refused to provide it to me, when last week, the "correct parts" were ordered, I was given a tracking number and guess what, the part had been delivered to the repair company at the beginning of the week, but did not bother to contact me to come out and replace (still doesn't work) the part until the end of the week. It is forecasted to be 110 degrees here by the weekend, I have NO refrigerator and my daughter just had surgery and her medication has to be refrigerated!
They are telling me now, the "new" parts will be in around the 30th, then I must schedule with the repair company to come back a 5th time to try these parts. AHS will not provide me with a tracking number. Said it is confidential, so I have NO idea if the parts have even been ordered, because of the trust and faith I have lost in them, they may not have even ordered them yet! I am disgusted with the LACK of customer service, especially when they have received over $17,500 of my money over the past 25 years! I am in contact with my attorney to see what can be done! Please customers, read ALL reviews about this company before you purchase a policy!

My husband ended up calling again to get someone else to come out and they want us to pay another $100 service fee. We asked them why, since the first person they sent out couldn't take care of the problem. We were basically told that's not their problem it's ours. We kept getting placed on hold when we tried to escalate the call and they would just leave us on hold for half an hour to 45 minutes each time. My husband made 6 calls today and was left on hold for a minimum of half hour EACH call. In a nutshell we not only paid for the warranty, but an additional $100 for the first service call where the problem was not fixed.

That was 11 days ago. Nobody has contacted me since. I have called everyday and nothing has been done. The representatives are so rude. They hang up and never call back, I've been lied to on every call (they have the diagnosis, then they don't). You're on hold for 10-30 minutes and if they come back it's another bold face lie. We had a problem with a smell of burning underneath our sink in the kitchen, and we weren’t sure exactly what it was, but we wanted somebody to check it out. We thought it was something to do with one of the appliances having something internally going wrong. So a plumber initially came out since it was all dealing with water, and found out that it wasn’t that. It was a cord burning at the outlet. So American Home Shield sent out an electrician who solved the problem rapidly, and did a few other things that we didn’t know was a problem to prevent future problems. So, we were quite satisfied with the end result. Considering that they had to come out and troubleshoot the problem to find out exactly what it was since we couldn’t identify it, I was very pleased with their overall response time and the quality of the work that was done.

She took my information down and said that the contractor would contact me online. I asked if I could call them and she gave me the phone number to call. She asked me to wait for about an hour, so while I was waiting, within 45 minutes, the people called me and set the appointment up for the next day. The guy was good and he knew what he was doing. I told him what was going on, then he came in and he checked it out. He said that there was something wrong, so he got up and took the unit apart. I also looked at it and one of the circuit boards was bad.
Then he came back and said that he didn't have the right board. He had the board that was for one light but I had two and he said that if he put that new board in, I wouldn’t have the one light, so I said I preferred two. So, he went out to his truck and said that he might be able to repair it. He soldered a new diode in it, came back and put it in, and it worked fine. The performance has been great since then. Overall, I’ve never had any problems with AHS. I’ve been with them for a long time and when I call in, go online, and do my work, they have somebody come out. And everybody would come out and take care of my problem.

I submitted a claim over the phone for my air conditioner to American Home Shield and though the representative whom I spoke with was great, the whole Home Shield is a nightmare. It should be illegal as it is a bait-and-switch. The reps fail to tell me that each time, I'm gonna pay $75 then the contractor doesn't call me back for two days. When they do, they tell me that they can't come out for a week. Friends of mine who've had American Home Shield tell me not to even bother using them and call someone from Angie's List instead. American Home Shield has a terrible process and I can't speak to anybody. I'm done with my claim with the air conditioner and I'll deal with it with competent people.
But then, I have another claim open with AHS for my garage door. I'm supposed to get a $75 credit back but I never did. It's ridiculous. When I call AHS up, their reps tell me to hold on and then they look at every little sentence to let me know what's covered and what's not. With my garage door, there's a small top panel the size of a shoebox that's dented in. The mechanism, motor and the parts that are covered under Home Shield are what damaged the panel. Their contractor took two weeks to get to me because they were too busy. When they finally get there, the tech tells me “Okay, well, the panel was damaged because of the motor, the way it opens and closes.”.
The irony in it is that no one’s asking for a new garage door. Instead, what has to be fixed is a panel the size of a shoebox. The guy said he can fix it, but it’ll cost $375. It's a catch-22. The garage door itself is not covered but what was covered is what damaged the panel. American Home Shield is a horrific company to deal with. I don’t understand how they’re in business because they sell you something and they don’t come through. Three times, I had to use this horrific company. Three times I paid $75. It wasn’t one bad experience out of three. Each one was worse than the other.

And when the contractors finally show up, it’s always at the end of the day. When my washing machine wasn’t working, American Home Shield sent Sears from Longview. Their website was easy to navigate, very good looking, and clean. Even the most handicapped people with internet can figure out how to submit a claim on it. Then, Myers Comfort Specialists of Montgomery immediately came out. Initially, they thought it was the fan, but it wasn’t. There were some other electrical issues with the AC and they took care of that.
As far as home warranty companies, I wouldn’t deal with anybody but American Home Shield because as soon as you file a claim with them, they immediately notify their service partners to get on it. Myers was also awesome because they responded immediately. Once they got that message, they sent me a text message and I liked the communication. The first claim I made to American Home Shield for a pool pump issue was through their automated system. That process was simple and convenient. The pool pump guy came out the same day that I made the claim which was awesome. He was very nice and very quick. He fixed the issue. The second time around, I made a claim for my gas furnace with a representative but then she seemed to have difficulty understanding what I was saying. I had to repeat myself a lot and I had to rephrase things. That took a little bit longer than I anticipated.
It took like three or four days for the technician to get here and he was not the greatest. He blew nitrous through our system to clear any blockages of water and get the gas flowing properly. When he did that, he blew it into our living room and made a big mess. That made the house stink really bad. He then said that he should've blown in the opposite direction so the mess would go outside. Now, I’m just wondering how trained and professional they are if they don’t know what the proper way to do the job is. Also, he had to order a part. Currently, we have an appointment scheduled for him to come and install it.

I have called AHS in the past since we've had the warranty and when I call them as a customer, I don't expect to have to wait hours for someone to answer. But I had to wait, more than one time, for up to three hours, and that's not acceptable. But recently when our air conditioning stopped working, I was able to go online and put the service request in. And this time, someone contacted me promptly, so I didn't have any problems. But we have numerous complaints with American Home Shield as a whole and we're extremely unhappy with them and their customer service.
One time, we had to move out of our home because we had sewage coming in and AHS said that they couldn't find anybody in the area. So they had to send somebody from an hour and a half away. Then, the contractor would take several days. I even had to pay for that bill myself then submit it to AHS to get reimbursed. We also had contractors that said they wouldn't work with American Home Shield. All in all, AHS as a company is lacking in how quickly they give you the help that you need, and how serious they take your claims.

We had the ice maker in our refrigerator that was leaking and it was creating blocks of ice instead of cubes of ice. So, J & W Home Repair came out. The service guy said we needed a new ice maker, and he was here for maybe five minutes. He went and looked at it, and he knew exactly what it needed. So far, American Home Shield has been useful to us. We’ve had two major replacements now. It took a while on the first one. There were a lot of confusions with Sears, which was the previous contractor, and I had to get involved with American Home Shield’s social media. And they finally got involved and took care of it.

We were having trouble with our split unit one time as the unit outside wasn't coming on on our downstairs unit. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield's website has been simple. I log in, describe the problem and usually hear from somebody within a few hours. A-US Air Conditioning Of Texas came out to service my split unit issue and when they left, my units were working fine for a while. We had to call them out as the same issue was happening again. The same contractor came back and found a faulty switch on the unit. They were good and everything went fine.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone for our garage door. Something had come undone and it was not making any noise. There was no activation at all. AHS sent Exit Garage Doors and they did a good job. Now my garage door is working well.
However, I had another issue with the people who answer the phone for AHS. I had an oven issue and I called to see if it was covered by the insurance. The lady whom I spoke to said it was covered and that they were gonna send somebody. That time, I had already specified what was wrong with the oven. The glass was shattered on the inside and AHS sent a person to write it down when I already said that to them. Once AHS sent that person, they said it’s not covered, so I ended up paying to get the oven fixed and also the $75 deductible fee. I called to complain, but the person said that they had to go over the recording, and they were gonna get back to me within 48 hours. And up to now, it’s been four days, and they haven’t called me back.
Additionally, I have another issue with AHS' salespeople. I have five different homes that I have insurance and they told me they were gonna give me a discount for the $75 deductible fee with the people who would showed up. They didn't give me that discount. When I asked them for it, they told me that I had to call back the salesperson. It’s bad communication, and I don’t know who decides what. I’m really irritated because sometimes, I could get through them, but once I do, it’s not the right person. So, I don’t know who to call.

We were happy with our experience with American Home Shield where they sent Sears out for a refrigerator. That was a good job. The refrigerator wasn’t running. And Sears repaired it and it started working. When the contractor was here, it had not been hooked up and we did not know that it wasn’t working. And he got it running, but the icemaker has not proved out like it should. It is not working good right at the moment. We’re trying to figure what it is but so far, it hasn’t worked. We may have to call back.
I’m not happy that when I called American Home Shield out for my water pump for my well, I came to find out my coverage is not there because it’s not my major source of water. It’s at my home but it’s not my inside water, and we were not told that. So, I had about nearly a year of paying for a pump that I couldn’t use. It’s working okay now, but I was not happy because I did not know that it wasn’t covered. So, we have stopped the coverage for the pump. Other than that, I’d recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's claims process is mediocre and their secondary follow-up could be improved. We had a washer that was insured through them and they continued to send the same guy out five or six different times. He never fixed the problem, and it ended up being a six-month, opened claim. Finally, AHS sent a second guy out who said that our washer was not repairable. Thereafter, they got as a new washer.
Even so, I had to explain to AHS multiple times that their initial contractor wasn't fixing our issue. The only answer I got was that we have to allow him to try to fix the problem which was ridiculous. It was also ridiculous trying to get to the supervisory level because on more than one occasion they gave me excuses of the supervisor wasn’t available and dealing with other complaints. Still, all the other contractors for my other claims have been solid.

The few questions that I had, they answered. Also, I've heard a lot of different stories from family members having to have to wait for parts. This time, as soon as the tech arrived, he said the issue was the fan. At the same time, he came in with a brand-new box with a new fan. He put it in the same day. It was a good experience overall.

When I called American Home Shield, they sent Total Air Care. The guy came out and checked and said that the coils on the air conditioner needed to be cleaned. He was very nice, professional, and didn't track dirt in the house. But he did not fix the problem. The air conditioner didn't get cool so I called American Home Shield back and asked for a different company. I had to wait which took a day or so and it was 100 degrees here. They sent another company out who said it was the condenser. The guy would wait 24 hours 'cause they have to get paid the service fee before sending the order.
The lady from AHS who answered the phone told me to call the company 'cause AHS didn't get the authorization. When I called the company, they told me they had dealt with AHS and then they ordered the part. But it took over a week. It cost me money because I had to stay in a motel as I can't live in that kind of heat and I couldn't work. It's finally fixed but it shouldn't have taken so long. I could've called a company myself and not deal with American Home Shield for the same amount of money I spent on the motel.

I made an appointment with American Home Shield for my AC unit and paid the $100 deductible. The first tech from Fast Response Heating & Cooling who came out said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my unit and that it looks great. We've had the unit for 15 years and we know it's supposed to keep the house cool. However, my house is very hot so after a few weeks went by, we called back to say that the AC is not running. A different person from the same company came out but was very late. Once again, that tech said my AC unit is fine. They don't see anything wrong with the blower. They don't see any leak in the coolant.
Although American Home Shield works the way that it's supposed to work, we're still dealing with an air conditioning that is keeping our house about 5 to 6 degrees warmer than what we have it set on. AHS's tech said that anything could happen at any minute, but if it's not actually broken, they can't really do anything about it. Right now, I'm not happy 'cause I'm in a hot house. After $100 and setting aside time for people to come out, I'm still in the same situation.

I put the service request in at the end of the week. So, it took a few days, but the next week, Al Farnam called me right away and they could get in that week. But then, the tech had to come back because he needed a part and to get okayed to put the part on. But then, he came back the next week. He did a really good job, he explained to me everything, why he had to do it, what was going wrong, what I could do to keep some of it from happening again, and I appreciated that. I've been really pleased with the service and the people they’ve sent out and I'll use those people again if I have an issue come up that’s not covered.

I had an issue with the refrigerator and when I submitted a claim with AHS, a serviceman came out and inspected it. He discovered that there was a relay in there that was faulty and it was tripping. So he replaced that, started the refrigerator up, and the compressor was running. We thought that it was fixed then he left. But that evening, we looked at it and the refrigerator wasn’t getting cold at all. It was the same thing in the morning. So, I called Al’s Appliance and told them that the tech was out here, replaced the relay, but that didn’t fix the problem. The service guy came back out here, looked at it, took the back off and touched the compressor. He said it was quite hot and that was bad. We ended up having to replace the compressor but in order to do that, they had to take the refrigerator into the shop and do it. But they gave us a loaner and I was totally satisfied with the response and what we got. Overall, it was a great experience.
I also had another claim where AHS contacted Dream Quest and they came out a day and a half later. The response was fine and my experience with them was also great. A friend of mine has American Home Shield as well and a number of years ago, they experienced an extreme cold spell here in Green Valley. As a result, the water lines busted in his utility shed, which is a little separate building on his house. Home Shield came out and repaired them. But he said that he got a notice that the repair of his pipes was no longer covered. That arose a question with me whether my refrigerator would still be covered. Other than that, Home Shield is fine and we'll continue subscribing to them.

We filed a claim and American Home Shield's contractor, Two Bald Guys came out and did fine with what they could do. However, they weren't able to fix the pipes. There were some issues about putting in another water line and the faucet was backwards. They said they may have to cut Sheetrock out and turn that valve around or cross the plumb lines ‘cause they were going on opposite directions. Currently, they’re supposed to be giving us a bid on doing something outside the warranty but we haven’t heard back from them on that. Even so, we're satisfied so far.

I was having trouble with my air conditioner as it wasn’t blowing cold in this one room. It was cold in all the rooms except for this room where my grandkids stay. When they came over, they were saying that it was too hot in there. American Home Shield sent out AAA All Brands Appliance. The gentleman from there was very nice and polite. He explained to me that it seemed to be an air duct problem and that it wasn’t covered by American Home Shield, so I kinda just wasted $125 for nothing. The contractor felt very bad and was very apologetic when I told him that I should have known about that before I got charged a 125. He was only here for 10 minutes.
For this claim, I did it online and it didn’t help in this instance. I later thought that it would have been nice to talk to somebody first before they sent someone out. Nobody called to ask about it. They just called and set the appointment. If I’m gonna call American Home Shield again, I’m gonna talk to somebody and tell them what’s going on with the air so I would know if they would say it's not covered. That way, I wouldn’t have had the contractor come out.
When I put in my claim for my AC online, there was a little space there to write what kind of problem you’re having. I put in there, that the AC was cooling all rooms except for one. I was expecting somebody to call and ask me what exactly was the problem or to explain a little bit more as to what happened. They could have told me then that the ductwork was not covered. Now, I’m hesitant about calling American Home Shield. If I have a problem with my stove, how am I gonna explain what’s wrong with it? What if they say someone would have to come out and see it first. Every time I call, that would be $125 whether something gets fixed or it is said to be not covered.
I’ve never had a home warranty program before and this was my first call. I figured doing this claim online would be quicker. This was a lesson learned for me. I was a little dissatisfied. With this experience, it made me question if American Home Shield did not want the exact information or if they just took your information. It seems that they’re just gonna send somebody out. If they can’t fix the issue or if it's not covered, American Hoem Shield is just gonna tell you it’s not covered. But they could have told you that over the phone.

I sent in a claim online to American Home Shield when our washing machine was not advancing. They got back to me pretty quickly and then the contractor came out and checked the machine. It was an old machine and they didn't have the parts, so the tech said they would have to replace the machine. After that, I tried to get in touch with American Home Shield, but they had a long wait line. They finally got back to us yesterday saying that they would be contacting us about getting a new one. So, it took a while after we found out the problem.

I've never had a problem dealing with anybody on a claim with American Home Shield. It's always been easy. We just discussed the nature of the problem and they instructed me that there would be a charge for the deductible that I'd had to pay, and they were gonna dispatch someone out to take a look at the problem. Both mine and my father's properties are tied. It's easy because, in American Home Shield's system, it doesn't differentiate which property is getting dispatched to. It has been a while since I've had a claim with them. But my father had three different claims in the last four months. The claim for the HVAC was handled very quickly. They helped in getting it all straightened out. And the HVAC has been working great.

We've been with American Home Shield for three years now and we’ve never had any problem. We have had Coastal Appliance out three times and they’re fantastic. I did all three times online and the first time, it was the ice maker. The second time, it was a seal around the freezer. They had to come back out because it was something else to do with the freezer. They use a text service and they do a callback, and they’re very prompt and professional.

When American Home Shield signs you up, they're like, "We cover this even if it's wrong." But t's almost like they find ways not to cover you. The air conditioning wasn’t getting cold recently and I made a claim online for it. Jake’s Heating and Air gave a time, and I was out of town and was making sure I was back for the appointment. They ended up coming an hour and a half later, and they denied the claim as they said the AC was installed improperly. Another thing I was upset about was I was trying to find out about the service because the contractor that AHS was gonna send out, when I looked them up on Better Business Bureau, had a low rating. I asked them, “Can you send somebody else out?” And they said no. I was like, “Can I talk to your supervisor?” They had me on hold for 30 minutes, and the supervisor never called me back. That happened twice. They did help out with a dryer roller repair, but barely. It doesn’t seem worth it.

You kept sending the work to a company 2 HOURS away from me when there were plenty of companies near me. This was going to make me have to wait 5 DAYS to get my air fixed. I tried to explain to the non-English speaking customer service to no avail. I had to hire someone else that fixed it in less than 5 hours after calling them. Not only did AHS charge me $100 deductible, but refused to let me speak to a supervisor, canceled my warranty, and had the nerve to charge me $56.99 for cancellation fee!

I've had nothing but problems with this company since I started the warranty service. They contract with a limited number of providers in my area (Illinois). The last incident I had with them involved issues with my heat. They sent a technician to my house who immediately walked in and told me he doesn't service my brand of furnace. They still wanted to charge me although the provider never did any work AND they never dispatched another provider. I had to hire my own company to do the work. When I called to cancel my service, I was assessed an administrative fee to cancel. What a joke! They conveniently buried this little tidbit in the middle of the contract but they don't mention it upfront. They should be paying me for staying with them as long as I did. Save your money. There are other warranty companies that don't charge as much for a service call and you don't have to pay to cancel.

My AC was finally replaced and I now have AC again on 8/15/19. Thank you AHS for approving the request quickly.
Original Review: July 23, 2019
On July 1, 2019 the downstairs AC unit stopped cooling. Went online and placed a claim on AHS's website. Contractor did not call me to schedule an appointment until 30 hours after. After speaking with the 1st contractor for AHS, they informed me a technician is not available to come diagnose the AC until 9 days later (7/9/19). I called AHS and asked them find another contractor. AHS said they've called 3-4 other contractors in the area and the earliest a tech would be able to come diagnose the issue was on 7/5/19. Tech showed up to diagnose the issue and determined that it was a failed compressor and they would order the parts.
Since 7/5/19, no status updates from contractor or AHS, so I decided to follow-up and called AHS and contractor on 7/9/19. Contractor told me the part has been ordered and should arrive 4-5 days and will call me to schedule the repair. 5 days later part still have not arrive. I called contractor and AHS again on 7/12/19, they informed me that contractor had marked a completion of the work on 7/14/19. AHS representative that they have up to 20 days to get the parts, per contract and I was lucky to get it sooner. I was really upset, so whatever since it was a couple of days away.
7/14/19 - Part still haven't arrived and now expected to arrive 7/18/19 and that's when the contractor will be back to replace the failed compressor. 7/18/19 - Paid $720 for 9 pounds of freon, compressor got replaced, worked for a bit, but later on it did not cool after the technician left. 7/19/19 - I called contractor and they would send a tech out to work on it again. Tech showed up and determine this time it's the reversing valve that's not working and he'll need to get the part expedited. 7/23/19-Part arrived and tech tried fixing the issue for about 2 hours. AC is still not working and he asked his supervisor to come check his work. Supervisor is here now.
So at the moment (7/23/19) - I still don't have AC in the hot Florida sun! I find it hard to believe how slow AHS and their contractors are. They claim none of their contractors are available to come diagnose the AC in 24-48 hours. AHS needs to find better AC contractors that can at least diagnose the issue and getting to a resolution quicker. 23 days later and counting without AC....

Three weeks later, and numerous annoying phone calls that I made to AHS, nothing. AHS never called me although each time they said I would hear something back from them within 24 hours. I was getting a different story every time I called. After being on the phone for an hour last night, I was told another technician has to come out to look at the washer. It is 30 years old and the serial number is no longer legible. The GE guy recommended replacement but AHS wants this different technician to come out and find the serial number. Dealing with American Home Shield has been nothing short of horrible. I put in a ticket for central AC on Sunday. I received an email and text verification immediately that I will be contacted within 24 hours. It is now Tuesday and nobody has contacted me. To make matters worse I started calling the contractor today and I discovered that you cannot leave a message and the email bounces back.
When I got somebody on the phone they gave a me a 'canned insincere apology' with no resolution. She put me on hold for 20 min and came back and told me that the initial contractor is too far and she has a new contractor that will be there on Friday. I reminded her that is 100 degree temperature in the East Coast and there are kids lives at stake. Her response was her insincere apology with no resolution. I then requested to speak to a manager and I was told that all the managers were busy!!!
Bottom line this is not the first time that this has happened. AHS collects a heavy premium each month close to $100 + a $75 service fee for each service call and they have no method of tracking if appointments with contractors are actually getting scheduled and who is getting assigned to the job. To assign a contractor and not know if the contractor is too far for the job is completely inexcusable. If I never called AHS this would have never gotten resolved and my tenants could have died. I demand a call from the CEO to explain to me how this is an efficient manner of helping American families and running a business. Amir

Twelve days later, in the midst of the one of the biggest heat waves in years (July 2019), no one called and explained the status of my repair. I had to call them up myself and got hung up on twice while on hold. Instead of living up to their word, they left a hastily spoken voicemail about how they can't replace the unit because of "improper installation". It's worked fine for 11 years, but apparently the installation was the problem. They'll weasel their way out of anything to deny a claim. These companies are nothing but FRAUDS. American Home Shield is awful, just awful. Our Air Conditioning went out and they sent an AC company in an unmarked white van. They charged us hundreds of dollars to add Freon because AHS only covers a small portion - that was fine. We understood. But when our AC went out two weeks later in 112 degree temperature and they were not going to be able to send another company out for a day we called another company on our own dime because we have a 6 month old. That company came out and informed us that the guys that we paid extra, the guys that AHS sent out overfilled the freon so that he could charge us more and ultimately made our issue worse. We decided to pay out of our own pocket to have our AC fixed, instead of using AHS, who we pay monthly and had faith to help us out in this type of situation, because we wanted to make sure it was fixed and fixed right.
We have a baby at home and we could not continue to come home to a 95 degree home because AHS does not partner with reputable contractors. AHS contracts with the lowest of the low company who only band-aid issues and rip off the homeowner whenever they see the opportunity. When I tried to talk to them about this issue they just didn't care, it was very disheartening. I told them that I did not want to renew my contract at that conversation. Yesterday I received a renewal email. They not only contract with shady contractors, who will most likely make your problem worse in the long run but they also do not respect their customers enough to help fix the problems or listen to their requests. I would watch out if you are a member and be strongly reconsider if you are considering them.

Well first off you try to call them for a service and it takes 20 minutes to get someone on the phone so they will say, you should just make a claim online. Well their online claims are ** because you can't explain anything, I literally just had to click sump pump even though I would have told them it was an external sump if I could have. I even checked my contract to make sure external sump pumps were covered. And under plumbing it said sump pumps were covered, however right below the covered items are the NOT COVERED items and I read through those and nothing was stated about the external sump pump not being covered. However we finally get the plumbers out and they say American Home Shield won't cover it and so on the phone with the first lady she pointed out that in a clause 3 sections above the plumbing section, it says nothing in the house is covered if it is not within the foundations of the house.
I feel this is super shady and they at first would do NOTHING to help us out and basically said sorry you read the contract wrong. So then we decide to call them again to see if they would let us have a plumber come out for a different concern we had. Our sink drain in the basement possibly has a blockage and they say they will snake the drain up to 100 ft. HOWEVER, IF IT IS DUE TO A FOREIGN OBJECT OR TREE ROOTS IT'S NOT COVERED. Aka WTF would be blocking the drain other than a foreign object or a broken pipe which is also not covered. So we were like, "Uh yeah can we just have our money back so we don't have the literal SAME ISSUE we had last time where we called you out just for it not to be covered and us to get screwed again?" Our contract is up in 15 days and we will not be renewing. Not worth it if everything that they say is covered is not actually covered once they come out.
Good morning Abby,
Your concerns regarding the item denial are understood. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

American Home Shield has treated us really well so far. We put in a service call last month. We had an issue with our air conditioner where a capacitor had blown up or it had stopped working correctly. American Hoem Shield sent out a contractor and they fixed the unit that day. But within about three weeks, we started to have another issue with our air conditioner. The condenser which is one of the main parts of the AC exploded on us. We also lost all the Freon out of the machine. We had to have the contractor come back out. It was also still within the service time. They give you 60 days from the first day they come out. If there are any other problems, they come out like a recall.
The contractor came out and they repaired the condenser for us. But we ended up having to pay out-of-pocket to replace the Freon that was lost. For the most part, it was a pretty good experience. We were pretty happy with the outcome. We didn’t care to have to spend all the money we had on Freon, but it’s part of the contract agreement. We kinda understand that.
The first time I made my claim with the AC, I did it online. When we had the second issue, I called in. The American Home Shield reps were pretty helpful. They gave me the information about the technicians coming back out and looking at the unit. They came out on Tuesday to fix the unit which was before the 4th of July holiday. They were pretty timely on the service call. It was really great because in the summertime, it’s awful without an air conditioner.

I usually submit my claims to American Home Shield over the internet and their website is good and efficient. Once I have sent my claim, the contractor would contact me directly. Usually it's a couple of weeks until I talk to the contractor. Then, they would come out, identify whatever issue it is and submit an authorization back to American Home Shield. From that point, we would wait for the authorization. They would order parts, schedule to come out and fix whatever the issue is. My HVAC system was down and it took a couple of weeks in the middle of summer to get it fixed. I now have air conditioning but I had to go out and buy a window unit. I have one claim open now that I've been waiting for a number of weeks on for my dishwasher. That has been problematic but the HVAC experience was good and it has been a positive one with 2-10.

But I told them that my issue was not a pressing matter and scheduled a time that was better for me. The contractor was excellent. They went through everything with me, talked through what the issue was, and were very explanatory. Everything was resolved.

There was water coming from out of the heating/air conditioning unit. And when I did a claim for it with American Home Shield, my experience was okay and fast. The first time the service guy from United Air Temp came out, I thought everything was okay. And then the next morning, there was more water coming out than there was before. The second time he came out, he must have fixed it because I haven’t seen any since then. But they wanted me to buy a maintenance contract with them, which I was not gonna do.

I went online and told American Home Shield that I had trouble with my air conditioner. They asked me how many units I had and I said, "Two." They sent a guy out. He seemed like he knew what he was doing and talking, and he told us about the repairs and the old air conditioner, and the fact that it has the R22 Freon, which is not gonna be available after the first of the year. We discussed it between ourselves and decided we would just replace it. Then he put Freon in my other one, but he failed to write a work order on that one. That's all he did.
So, I was sitting all week without one of my air conditioners and then waiting for the other one to get installed. The actual gentleman themselves that came out originally was personable and nice but he should have followed through and said, "I had to put Freon in it. That must mean there's a leak." But he didn't. I wasn't getting my upstairs air conditioner replaced till Thursday and the Freon that he put in on Saturday apparently leaked out by Tuesday afternoon so from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday afternoon, it was 93 degrees in my house. I called and asked the American Home Shield rep if the contractor had an emergency after-hours number where I could call the guy that had originally come out and ask him to come back and look at it. Well, she swore up and down there was no after hours emergency number for them to use or call.
She said that I have to pay another claim and another $75 because that one is not listed on my paperwork. I told her I listed that I had two air conditioners and the contractor determined that one had to be replaced and the other one needed to put Freon in which they did already, so she should get a work order on it because AHS has to pay for their share of the Freon that the contractor put in it. This woman didn't really care. I said that it's 93 degrees in my house. I have sweat dripping from my face on to the paperwork I'm writing things that we were talking about on and all she can seem to say is that there's not a work order for that air conditioner? I argued, and argued, and argued with her.
I called the air conditioning people the next morning and I let their phone thing run because it was before their hours. It said, "If you are an insurance company or contractor, and you need to get ahold after hours, please use the emergency number you have on file." This customer service person lied to me about being able to get ahold of somebody to come over that night to kinda help me out a little bit.
American Home Shield finally called A-US Air and A-US Air convinced them that they were gonna get a work order on that other air conditioner because of the Freon. So, they finally agreed to let someone come out and look at it a second time without having to pay anymore. In the meantime, a friend of mine looked at the big air conditioner and told me to call the people who installed it and see if it is still under warranty so I did and it is. They would be replacing the parts that need to be under warranty.
I called A-US Air and said that I didn't need them to come out now because the other air conditioner was under warranty, and I was having the warranty people take it. This guy asked me if I was sure that I want to cancel. Well, the people are gonna look at it and tell me what needs to be done. I don't need somebody else to come out. I said that if American Home Shield would have sent somebody out when I needed them, it would have been a moot point. But anyhow, that's how it stands. The people that installed it were wonderful. They cleaned up after themselves.
So, right now, I'm done with American Home Shield. I'm really considering if I wanna re-up with them in November when I come around because every time I call it seems like they don't cover things which is probably the same with most every other one. But once you have an experience with them, you kinda think twice to get it.

American Home Shield has been absolutely great with me. I submit claims with them over the phone. I like to do stuff on the phone personally, talk with a representative. Dealing with AHS was excellent. Their reps gave me the answers that I wanted to hear, told me what I needed to hear. And they’re very friendly with the conversation and everything. And I've had no problem with any claims so far. Everyone that American Home Shield sent out was good. On my recent claim, Greenway Home Services did a excellent job. I had them look at my heater system. But before then, they did my AC and it’s still working fine. Every time they come out, they do what they need to do and I highly recommend them.

A month ago, our ice machine went out. I called American Home Shield and they got a hold of somebody, then they told me they couldn’t come out for two weeks. I was little disappointed, but I said it was okay. They eventually came out in two weeks and fixed the ice machine but it broke down a week later. So, I called them directly, because they left their card, and they said I had to go through American Home Shield to get another work order before they could come out and re-fix it.
So, I called American Home Shield and that’s when I talked to the woman who was very professional and nice. There was a language barrier but other than that, she was really awesome. She said she would put kind of a hurry up on it for me, which she did. Then they notified me the next day, but they said they couldn’t come out for another two weeks again. I was a disappointed again, but I understand it’s a busy time of the year for them. So, I said all right. She also said that if anyone cancels, she'd call me. And I said I’d appreciate it. Then she called me today, said somebody had cancelled, and that they’re gonna be here tomorrow. So, that all worked out good.

I live in Charleston, South Carolina and it has been hot here. I had my thermostat set at 75 but nothing was cooling. My air conditioner went out at 2:00 am and by 6:00 am, I was going online and scheduling with American Home Shield. Going online was self-explanatory and it was easy to use. Changing Winds came out first and I was very dissatisfied. I have since spoken with the local rep and I stressed to her that the gentleman was fine the first time he came out, but then he never fixed the problem. He said I was just low on Freon. He wasn’t very knowledgeable and he didn’t care to fix the issue. He gave me his cellphone number and I called him back a week later. He never used the word liar, but he pretty much summed it up and told me I was a dumb person, didn’t know what I was talking about and that it was not gonna cool in this heat, which is 100% incorrect.
At this point, I was extremely frustrated because I was going on more time of having no air, and I was supposed to be entertaining. I was told that I could hire my own company or they put in another emergency request or I could wait a couple of nights and have Total Air Care come out. It was the week of the Fourth of July and I knew that trying to get somebody out was gonna be a hard thing. But the first gentleman from Total Air Care came out to diagnose the problem on the Fourth of July so, I was impressed. He thought at that time that it was the evaporator coil. It took them two weeks to get the part in but he was able to put in some Freon, and it cooled off a little bit around here. So, I was able to maintain the unit still with some coolness before the part came in.
Last week, the new evaporator coil came in and Total Air was very prompt in coming out, and they got the air conditioner up and running. The experience with AHS was a little frustrating at first just because it was summertime in Charleston, but with some patience, diligence and consistent effort, they got the problem solved.

I submitted a request for service on 6/21/2019. The first contract recommended that my refrigerator be replaced, because the part would cost more than a new refrigerator. A week later I called to get a status update and I was told by American Home Shield that this contractor didn't work on sealed units. Next contract was sent out and had the same recommendation to replace the fridge. Today is 07/22/2019 and after calling twice a week still no answers. I have been told that it would escalated, because the contractor hadn't submitted a detailed diagnosis. I call the contractor and explains this to him and he said he has submitted everything and can't move forward until he gets authorization.
American Home Shield refers the contractors, you don't have the option of picking your own contractor so these are nothing more than excuses. They ask you a bunch of questions and clearly don't document anything because every time you call the next associate ask the exactly same questions and has the same response that clearly isn't a resolution. For the amount of money I paid for a warranty I could have just saved that money and bought a new refrigerator. I went through a similar incident with my oven last year. I meant to cancel this warranty after the dreadful process to get my stove fixed. They don't live up to their promise.

In the 4.5 years that I have owned a policy with AHS, every experience has been a nightmare. The insurance will either send a technician who is instructed to rig up a repair for as cheap as possible, ultimately resulting in the issue coming back and forcing you to pay another co-pay and by then you are probably better off having contracted a repairman yourself. Alternatively, they will cite clauses to force you into paying more than what they are paying on a repair so that it makes it economically unfeasible to perform the repair at all while wasting your deductible on every repair. At the end of the day, you are better off not ever signing up for this policy and just calling your local plumber, HVAC repairman, etc. over owning a policy with them.

Customer service is not good. I contacted them when I got my renewal contract, which was significantly increased from my previous year, even though we had no claims. I advised them I'd like to cancel my renewal, which is set for 9/22/2019. I'm going to go with Home Warranty of America for $640 - offering the same, if not superior coverage.
First they said they would just lower my rate back to the original, which I said was fine - please send me an updated renewal contract, but then they said, "oh, you'll need call back on 9/23/19", which is after the renewal goes into effect at the increased rate. When I asked to speak with a manager, they refused. Not to mention that they were rude, and did not speak very clear English, which made it difficult to communicate. All in all, it was not a good experience, and I am going to change companies if I cannot get a renewal PRIOR to the renewal date at my current rate. There is no reason for a $100 increase.
Good Morning Kristopher,
I apologize for the recent price increase with your renewal contract. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Long story short, my ac unit went completely out this weekend (heatwave). After going through what felt like begging, AHS couldn't find someone immediately so they gave me "authorization" to find someone because they weren't able to in a decent time frame. So, I found a contractor. The guy came out and did a diagnostic and recommended that the whole thing (inside and outside) be replaced because my units are so old and parts weren't available for it. The contractor informed AHS of it and what it would cost to replace it because it CANNOT be fixed. The price is as follows:
Covered: $5175.00
Not Covered: $1850.00
That's just the beginning! They want me to pay the contractor the total cost now, and will reimburse me the covered! WHAT IN THE HELL? If I had $7025.00 on hand then I wouldn't need a home warranty because I could afford it myself!! Their website says they will "REPAIR OR REPLACE". Well I guess they will only do it if you pay it upfront so they can reimburse you. What is the point of a home warranty again??? Outrageous!

American Home Shield is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to pay for services. If you are like myself and purchasing a home warranty to feel at ease if something goes amiss after purchasing a new house, I would highly advise not using American Home Shield and research other warranty companies. To briefly summarize our experience, our range/oven began leaking gas, which we filed a claim on May 20, 2019. Today is July 21, 2019 and we still do not have a working range/oven. Keep in mind this is my families residence, and only range/oven for cooking. The issues have stemmed from the repair company AHS chose to do the work did not actually know about gas ranges, to AHS parts department sending the wrong part 3 separate times. I also requested a new repair company to which I was told no. The worst part about it though has been when I called AHS for assistance.
I have called customer service several times, with what I would assume are reasonable requests, such as AHS has sent the wrong part 3 times, can please expedite shipping when reordering the part, again. Through this process, I have not talked to a single person that had any idea what was going on or what to do. I have been on hold for more than 2 hours at a time, I have been hung up on when being transferred to escalated manager, and also told I cannot talk to a manager because they are at lunch. On the most recent call, to find out why AHS denied the request that the technician (that they provided) recommended the range was beyond repair and to just get a new one, I also voiced my concern about how not having a working kitchen for 2 months has been very hard on my family (8 month old baby girl and wife) and that it feels like AHS just does not care.
The direct quote I received was: "I am sorry you feel that way, is there anything else I can do". I completely understand that mistakes happen and processes can take extra time, so I am usually very reasonable and easy to work with, but this has been too much. All I am looking for is for someone to take ownership, which I feel is customer service 101. If I talked to a rep and they said, “I am so sorry to hear that, and I am going to take ownership of your situation until it is completed; follow up with the technicians, expedite parts and be a contact in case you need any updates or information,” I would be thrilled even though it’s been taking so long. But I have received no help or sympathy.
Every time I need something additional, I dread to call to AHS. But really, all I really want is a working range/oven. If you do chose AHS as your home warranty, I really hope you do not need them, as if a situation happens that you need to request service, it is going to be a long, stressful, irritating and miserable experience.
Good afternoon Matt,

American Home Shield seems to find pretty inferior people, and these people take a long time to show up. They sent out Fast Appliance for the ice maker. They only come once a week to Lewes, Delaware. There are no local people. Also, they had to order parts and it was always the wrong parts. They didn’t know what they were doing, and it went on for weeks and weeks. We told American Home Shield about it and they sent out someone from GE. That was another two weeks more, so the claim took seven weeks altogether. But the refrigerator is finally working. I have another claim for the air conditioner and the parts for it haven't shown up yet. It’s now two weeks. They told me the parts would be here, but they’re not here. American Home Shield sent out Plumbing Enterprise for my toilet, and I can’t reach them on the phone. They’ve came out here twice but they can’t get my toilet fixed. And now, I have to buy a new toilet.

My most recent claim with AHS was a dryer. Diaz Appliance took care of that and they put in a dryer motor last week, and did a superb job. Everything was excellent. It was about 48 hours for them to come out. They looked at it, and had to order the parts. And it was 5 days later when the parts came in. It took them about 40 minutes to do the work, and was very efficient.
Before that I actually had called in because I was going to cancel my warranty. We had put in a claim for air-conditioning because it was not getting cold. And so they sent someone out from Ambient Ai, and they came in. In about 15 minutes, came back and said, “It’s a $2,500-job to clean the coils, and that’s in the duct work, and duct work is not in your warranty,” which it is. It is in the warranty. “Or I can sell you a new air conditioner right now.” So I’m like, “Hmmm no. Let me get a second opinion.” So I called American Home Shield about getting a second opinion and they want to send someone from the same company. And I said, “That would be kind of silly. We really need to have another entity look at it.” And this went on for about two weeks, back and forth, trying to get someone to acknowledge the issue. And meanwhile, it’s Arizona in the summer. I couldn’t get my air conditioner lower than 83.
So finally, I called a friend who sent someone over that she knew, and he came in. He said, “Your Freon’s low.” He added a pound of Freon, and it’s been working beautifully ever since. Luckily, I don’t have this $8,000 to throw out the window. Otherwise, I probably would have said, “Oh, sure. Whatever you say,” which I’m sure a lot of people do. So I called American Home Shield and explained what happened. They credited me, which was great. Because as soon as they credited me, I had to call about my dryer and it worked out. But most times, I have no problems with AHS and everything works well

He then checked the refrigerant and added to it. He looked at the unit in the basement and said it looked okay. He was in and out pretty quickly and my HVAC worked. It seems to be working fine. Last week, it was really hot here and humid. The HVAC worked fine in the basement and the ground floor. But I think the unit doesn't have enough oomph to push cool air upstairs. I called American Home Shield when there was an issue with my clothes dryer. They got everything set up quickly. The work order was sent to Astro Appliances who contacted me pretty quickly to set up the first appointment. A gentleman arrived and said that he would replace the fuse and left 40 minutes later. Unfortunately, I had to have surgery and I was only on one foot so I wasn't hopping right up doing laundry. ut when we did try to use it, it wasn't heating. We had to call American Home Shield again and they set us up with Astro Appliances again. They were supposed to come out on a Friday afternoon with a call 30 minutes ahead. They called ahead but I had stepped away from my desk and I missed the call. I called right back within 10 minutes or so and got a gentleman's voicemail. I left him a message.
When I didn't hear an hour later, I called again and left a message. No one ever showed up. My husband took off to be there for them. When I called the company the following week, they said that the gentleman who was supposed to come into my house said no one ever called them back. It was on Friday the 4th of July weekend. I think he probably just wanted to get his weekend started. I had to call back again and get someone to come out. My husband took off and met them. They said it was repaired.
When I tried a day or two after that to use the dryer, it was drying but it was at such a low heat. It was like it was set on gentle. I had a very small load of just two sheets and two bath towels. I had to start it five times and let it run for an hour five times to dry those few things. We had to call again and someone came out last Saturday. It was supposed to be between 12:00 and 5:00 but they called at 11 o'clock and said they were on their way. I was not home yet. I had to call my husband and have him meet them.
The gentleman was there and my husband got on the phone with me and said that the serviceman said that it was not a problem with the dryer. Apparently, the hose from the dryer to the exhaust was clogged and that was a homeowner issue and it was our problem to take care of it. I asked to speak to the gentleman who was there and he told me the same thing. He told me it ended up to the attic and we needed to go up to the roof and check it to make sure it was clean. He had disconnected it from the dryer because it was a fire hazard and it wasn't safe for us to use.
I told him that he was the third person who looked at the dryer and no one mentioned that there was an issue with it before. He had no comment to that. He said he replaced a thermostat and a heating coil while he was there. I asked him about that because I've had this dryer repaired before through American Home Shield. If they had ever found anything in the exhaust hose, they would have cleared it out and told us. But the guy was only allowed to work on the dryer. He wasn't allowed to work on the house.
He left the hose there disconnected for my husband and me to take care of so we did that. This weekend, my husband sat me up on a chair near there so I could see what he was doing and he got back there. There wasn't even a handful of lint. There were some little pieces. We snaked it all the way to the wall. First of all, it doesn't go to my roof and not even to the second storey. It vents right behind the dryer. My husband was able to go to the outside and take the long thing that we haven't cleared from the outside all the way in.
The dryer's working now but I don't know what their deal was. The first guy came out here quickly and he called ahead. I thought everything was great. But the contractor's service was terrible. It took several times to fix the dryer and the repairman lied about my calling him back and not being there that afternoon. After taking a couple of months off for surgery, I couldn't just keep taking time off to go and deal with it. I will never have them set foot in my home again. It's just ridiculous. We have had Hotshot Appliances out to our house at least twice for the same dryer, washer, dishwasher, and range. American Home Shield almost always sends Hotshot and I never had a problem.
When one of my air conditioners went out, American Home Shield repaired it and there was a specific company that they had come out to do it. Since that time, if I ever called to have somebody come out, I request that company. I have before requested Hotshot. I'm sorry I didn't do it this time. American Home Shield was fine and everything happened very promptly. They got the work orders over to Astro very quickly but they need to get rid of Astro Appliances.
I've had American Home Shield for a number of years. There was a time when we started to have a problem with the toilet in our powder room, with clean water flowing from the toilet up over the seat. It had something to do with the connection between my washer, dishwasher, kitchen sink, and the toilet that are all within about 25 feet of each other in the house. Technicians came out several times but couldn't find a problem. We even paid extra to have the camera snaked down the line. It happened again one time after we had our floors replaced with laminate. My laminate's a little warped because of that.
After that, American Home Shield wouldn't renew us for a while. But it wasn't my fault. Technicians had come out four or five times for the same toilet in a six month period. But after they kept sending me emails asking me to sign up with them, I waited about six months and I signed up. I fully expected them to call me back and say "No, we can't do it." But they went ahead and set it up.

The AC wasn’t blowing. It was hot in the house. I called American Home Shield and told them what the problem was and they had sent somebody out from Curtis Repair Service as quick as they could. The service guy was really nice and did everything excellently. He put a new capacitor on it outside and it's been working fine and blowing really good.

My microwave went out so I filed a claim and the AHS reps were extremely helpful. The contractor came out to look at it within three days. They determined they couldn’t fix it. American Home Shield replaced the microwave with another one that was delivered to our house. They did pretty much what they said except they were supposed to have somebody install it. They failed on that part and it ended up having me install it. It was good overall.

I get American Home Shield all the time. We have home warranty contracts on four of our properties. We had a leak in our air conditioning system that was dripping into our dining room. Submitting the claim online for it with American Home Shield was a piece of cake. It was a little vague at first because the contractors were supposed to contact me, and I ended up having to call them myself to schedule an appointment, and it was difficult to get through to them. So, when I finally got through to them, they came quickly. The first time, the guy didn’t fix it properly. And we had to call him back within two or three days, and we determined that he had misdiagnosed what was wrong and he fixed it.

My air was out and after a couple of attempts of trying to get it to work ourselves but failing, I called American Home Shield to file a claim. Somebody called me within 24 hours and they said that they wouldn’t be able to come for two weeks. I remembered the last time I had South Placer Heating & Air come out. I really liked them. The guy was great. The owner actually came out because there was a problem with one of their techs. We were really happy with the company so I kept their name in my contacts. I called American Home Shield and told them that I couldn't wait two weeks and requested for South Placer. They are under contract with AHS. The rep told me they couldn't always do that, but they would do it that time.
We still had to wait a week. But their technician got out here as soon as he could. During the heatwave, we were without cool for about eight days. But it was worth the wait because when the technician came out, my unit was done within 20 minutes. He came early too. We had a great experience with them. I only wanna use them because they're really good. I referred them to a bunch of people.
I’ve had really good luck with American Home Shield too. I used to be in property management so I listed the ones I didn’t wanna use because they were always a hassle to schedule with. My brother referred me to American Home Shield. He said that if I was gonna renew my policy, I shouldn't renew it with other people. I should renew with American Home Shield instead. I went ahead and used them. I really like them and I’m really very happy with the company.

I called American Home Shield for our air conditioning system for the upstairs. I spoke with the service representative and our interaction was good. However, we reported the issue on a Friday, and they came out on a Wednesday. AHS was gonna send us the name of the company. And if we haven’t heard from them, then we could call them. And I haven’t heard from them, and apparently, they didn’t work on the weekends, which is strange. But once the contractors got out there, they did a great job. It’s in the middle of the summer and a lot of people probably have issues. And they got to us when they could get to us. So far, everything’s good.

Every time we’ve had an issue, American Home Shield has gotten us a contractor. Their website was comprehensive, but I wasn't confused with it when submitting claims online. When our garbage disposal quit, Adam’s On-Time Plumbing was sent out to change it. The guys came out on the expected timeframe that was given to me. And everything is just fine since the service. I would recommend AHS to a friend.

My washer was malfunctioning and American Home Shield sent Advanced Appliance Services out. The contractors were very good. We knew them from even before I had the policy with Home Shield, so they’re good. They had to order parts and come back. And from beginning to end, the repair took a couple of weeks. So far, everything’s been good.

It was very easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield online. After we were not able to have the company come out and fix the cooktop stove with parts, I had to talk to a representative to figure out what to do next. They ended up having to replace the whole cooktop and that was such a blessing because we got a new cooktop. It's been great.
