    Mister Plumber was sent by American Home Shield to service my toilets that were leaking. There were two people due to the number of issues. There was an issue with my garbage disposal as well. Those people did the work, showed me what the problems were, and fixed them. They were in and out in less than a hour. The toilets have been performing better. And they replaced the disposal altogether. Submitting my claim was a very easy process. I did it online, and I received an email confirmation. The website was to the point. It wasn’t complicated. Overall, the opportunity to book or to request service with American Home Shield is easy. The response is timely and customer service is friendly and attentive.

    I called and did a claim at American Home Shield over the automated system, and it was super easy. I thought I had a leak, and so I called in a plumber but it ended up not being a plumbing related issue. So, my $75 was transferred over to an AC repairman, and it was handled by them. The plumber took a little bit to get back to me, but the AC guys got back to me within less than 24 hours. The plumbing guys went out of their way to help out and see if we could get my $75 transferred over to the AC guy. They were really helpful. The AC guys were also really helpful in telling us how to keep up with maintenance. We got a new thermostat and and the AC is running a lot better now. I recommend AHS all the time.

    I put in a request with AHS to have our locks rekeyed. The locks on the door were from when the condo was built in '98, so they're 20-plus years old. The locksmith came out and he said that I needed a part. He he went out to his truck and didn't have the part. So, I went to the hardware store and I couldn't remember what the part was. I'd written it down but I didn't see what he was looking for, and I knew that time was of the essence, so I just bought two home locks, door handles and locks. Then, in addition to the 75 I paid American Home Shield for the rekeying, he charged me another 40 bucks to install the new door locks and handles. He said that American Home Shield wouldn't pay for the replacement of the locks and I owed him 40 bucks. So I was a little upset about that. I also paid for the door lock handle combinations. They had to slide them in and rekey those so everything was keyed the same.

    That same time, we also put a request in for the dryer and have the dryer repaired. The guy came out and fixed it and my wife was very happy. He crawled around behind it, did what he had to do, and had no problems whatsoever. The dryer's been working fine since the repair. We've also had two good service calls for appliances. We had a plumbing service call which turned into be a nightmare, which I ended up hiring a handyman to do, and AHS sent me a check for it. But I went out and bought a garbage disposal then had a handyman put it in because this plumbing company in Pontiac was a real nightmare to deal with. So we've had a couple of very good experiences with AHS and we've had a couple of very questionable ones. Some of the contractors that have come out have been very good while others have been not so good.

    I kept getting hissing noises through the pipes and the gentleman that AHS sent was very informative, and it went pretty smoothly. He turned the water on in the places that I told him about, and he didn’t find any leaks. He said it could be a pipe that comes off of the water heater. We just had a new water heater put in several months ago and he said that the noise could be coming because of something that was going on with that particular pipe, and just to go in and kinda tap if it happens again to see if that’s what the problem is. But he couldn’t find any leaks anywhere. I’m glad he was able to fix whatever it was. I would definitely recommend AHS.

    I've had a couple of contacts with AHS but most of my transactions with them have been done online. It’s a pretty simple and straightforward process where you just go online, enter what the issue is, and there’s a couple of buttons on there to click on whether it’s regarding my pool pump or whatever the case may be. Then within 24 hours, they’ve got someone contacting me and they’re out within a day or two, if not the same day.

    American Home Shield had somebody lined up to come out within the same day that I filed a claim online, and then that person cancelled. I was pretty upset about it, but that wasn’t American Home Shield’s fault. So, I called back American Home Shield and I explained to them the situation that I was in. I told them that the AC unit went out that morning and that it was 98 degrees and I had two little toddlers. The rep that I talked to was so fantastic. She went out of her way to make sure that another agent came and serviced the AC unit the same day because it was a dangerous situation. She was empathetic and called three different agencies in my area until she found somebody that could get out. It was five o’clock that day, so most of those folks were closing down. But the very next morning, we had somebody come out. So, it was within 24 hours of the claim.

    The second company was fantastic. They knew my system inside and out, and how to fix it, and then gave me some feedback about what I needed to do. They recommended replacing it. And that’s part of the reason why I got Home Shield. We got our HVAC serviced two months ago, and I was told it was working fine, but it could go out at any minute. So that’s when I got the home warranty. The AC didn’t completely blow out but it stopped working. So, I’m glad that we had a home warranty company.

    I’m new to American Home Shield. It was in my first month of being with them when this happened. And I couldn’t have had a better experience. It was because of the interaction with the rep, the follow-up phone call, and the responsiveness of the agent. So, I’ll be an American Home Shield customer for quite a few years because of this first experience. I’ve had some poor home warranty companies in the past. I’ve only been with American Home Shield for a couple of months, but I would recommend them to anybody.

    Everything had gone fine with American Home Shield. The technician repaired our refrigerator and did a great job. It had a broken piece and it was also leaking water in the back so it was like coming into the inside and freezing under the drawers. The technician had to take the part, fix it and put new pieces in. Also, when I open the door, the flap was broken and he replaced that too. The repair took a few days since he needed to order a part. He was extremely professional and friendly.

    I just came from another warranty company and it wasn’t all that great. On the other hand, submitting a claim online to American Home Shield for my dryer was a piece of cake. I got a email pretty much instantaneously, and then a contractor contacted me the next day. He came out on time, diagnosed the problem, and went to get the part. He was kind, courteous and clean. The rep was perfect and told me that a contractor would be out after at most two days. A tech from Pasadena Heating and Air came out to service my request.     The man who worked for MSE Plumbing was great, very nice, but I’ve not had a good situation. I’m waiting for a callback today from somebody. When I first called a couple of weeks ago, I paid the $75 and then I had to pay it again. I had two separate issues and I’m having ongoing issues with both of those work orders. The lady who helped me the first time was really hard to understand based on the fact that I don’t feel she spoke good English. So, other than that, she was very nice and helpful. But the situation that I’m dealing with is very frustrating and I’m waiting for it to be taken care of immediately. But I had a hard time understanding the representative.

    I think the issue was misdiagnosed and not taken care of by the company itself. As far as Home Shield goes, I called them today and said, “Listen, I have no hot water in my house. I have a daycare. I run a business, and legally, I have to have hot water in my house. Somebody needs to come out here today.” The person who was sent out here to fix my water heater told me there was nothing wrong with the actual water heater even though you hear banging and clanging around in your walls. It just needs to be mounted to the wall better and not something Home Shield will cover because it’s outside of the water heater. I just need to put some wood up there.

    Some short time later, we have no hot water and I have eight daycare kids here. I need to be able to feed them and wash their dishes and be able to sanitize. I have to have hot water. So, I called Home Shield today and I said, “Listen, the company came out. The guy was super nice, very helpful, stayed awhile, but he misdiagnosed the water heater. Or I don’t know if he misdiagnosed it or I don’t know what happened, but it’s really bad now, and I wish it would've just been told to you guys it just needed to be replaced at that time.”

    I also said, “There’s a leak coming from the inside of my house and it’s trailing up the outside of my house.” So, the guy from the same company came out. He said it was coming from the inside of my home. He fixed it and told us to turn the water off for six hours. Again, my daycare kids had no water for six hours. I had to go purchase some. And now, we came home, so we kept the water off for about eight hours, we came home and turned the water back on and it’s leaking. So, we called him on Saturday morning and said, “I understand if you can’t make it through the weekend. We get it. But we are also having to pay for the water that is leaking out of that faucet that you just fixed, or the pipes, and now, they're leaking again. And so, just give us a callback please. Come and take care of it.”

    It’s been four days. I’m not sure what's going on, but nobody has called us back yet. It’s still leaking, and now we have no running hot water. So, I’m really frustrated right now. The guy I talked to from Home Shield said he tried contacting them and that they were on lunch and to give it two hours. And it’s been almost that.

    American Home Shield is doing awesome. The only issue I seem to have with today and the last time was not the customer service, it was more of the language barrier. Sometimes they didn't understand what I was saying and what I was really trying to ask. They were really nice, very polite, but sometimes they kept repeating certain things that I really wasn’t asking them.

    The whole service was awful, the entire experience. Wait times on the phones, rude representatives and rude managers. If they weren't rude they sounded like they were on their death bed. One electrician came twice for the same issue, made fun of us because he thought it was the lint build-up in the dryer... it wasn't. It's still broken. Had THREE of my ceiling fans fall out of the ceiling due to poor assembly. Not covered by Home Shield. How the hell was I supposed to check that? I was under the impression that as what a warranty was for. I had four service people come and only one issue was resolved. Oh, and you couldn't change my # in your system so the service people couldn't even call to coordinate appointments properly. Truly a ** show from top to bottom.

    It may be one of the worst bait and switch I have ever experienced. We waited for the people they recommended to call back for days and they never did. They then proceeded to tell us to get our own quote and submitted to them. We did. Then they wanted 7 other things and we did exactly what they told us. We had work done, per one of their managers, paid the contractor in full and submitted paid invoice as instructed. 12 calls later, still getting the runaround and now a decline. Worst customer service ever. Do not use this company unless you're prepared for the runaround. ZERO STARS if that was an option. They prey on the little consumer. Scam.

    So according to a rep I spoke with, they send out a notification 60 days prior to renewing your plan. I wake up this morning with an overdraft because I didn't remember that they notified me 2 months ago. I take responsibility and accountability for my part. However, I wanted to change plans because I do not recall paying almost $700 for a plan. I did not have the opportunity to do that because my plan was automatically renewed.

    So now I have a $28 overdraft and the only thing the rep could say was sorry. Well I am too because your "sorry" does not refund the decrease of my plan nor does it replace the $28 I'm out. I understand this is a company but we all have families and other responsibilities and do not have money to waste because the company isn't courteous enough to reach out in a timely manner. I am upset and disappointed after being with another company for so many years. I come over to AHS and this is the thanks I get. Well I probably should have stayed where I was. They won't renew your plan without proper notification. And I won't even mention the terrible customer service I received. Thanks AHS, I will be happy to not recommend you!

    Updated on 08/12/2019: Well I finally cancelled my AHS contract. No matter how many people I have talked to at AHS I could not get a straight answer as to why my yearly contract price has been nearly doubled for this year. I finally received a letter from AHS today dated 2/12/19. It stated they adjusted their product offering we had before as it was no longer available to me. There was an 800 number to call, but no reason why, no mention as to what the new price was and no reason for this increase.

    I called the number on the letter to cancel my policy and when I kept asking, for the 100th time, what the reason was for the increase I was told, again, because of the number of calls I had made during the last contract period. Nowhere does it state anything regarding this in the contract. I was given a P.O. box number in Carroll, IA to send a letter to ask for specifics. I am not sure how this company is run, but if a current customer cannot get information over the phone, it is run by idiots. After 15+ years as a AHS customer, I have a new company who comes highly recommended.

    Original Review: My new contract came due in May. I was astounded when the yearly rate was ALMOST DOUBLED. Of course I called AHS immediately and was told a letter was sent in January regarding this issue. I did not receive a letter and asked a copy be sent. When I did not receive the letter I called AGAIN - same result, no letter. Recently I had an opportunity to speak to other individuals who live in my area and their rates had not been raised, however, they were offered a chance to pay $75, $100, $125 per visit if they wanted to decrease the amount of their yearly payment. First time I heard of this. Trying to make a long story short (which is not easy) I have been trying to find out, for the last two months, exactly why my rates have been almost doubled. Now, we have not moved and we have not added anything extra to our policy.

    After many phone calls with no luck last week, I was told that the number of calls I made for service last year was in excess of the amount allowed. First time I ever heard this!!!! Checked through the contract and there is NO mention of number of calls allowed per year. Yesterday I was given yet another phone number to call. Well it seems that my price was raised because I live in California and the price of doing business here has been escalating. NOW, HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION THAT I GOT NO ANSWER TO. A friend of mine who lives in the same town and has the SAME EXACT COVERAGE did not have a raise in her yearly agreement price BUT was offered the sliding scale for a service call fee. I cannot seem to get a straight answer and if I ask a question they do not have an answer for I get silence.

    We have been a customer of AHS for over 15 years and lived through a couple of years of HELL not being able to get someone to answer the phone when placing a service call or just wanting to talk to someone about a problem. We came out the other side and NOW THIS. It seems the right hand does not know what the left is doing. Every different person I speak to has different information. AND, I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A LETTER FROM JANUARY THAT EXPLAINS THE PRICE INCREASE IN MY YEARLY PAYMENT. I would like to have some answers to some basic questions without out having to talk to people around the world. A friend suggested I send a letter to AHS's home office registered/return request. Might do that, took me a while to trace down a mailing address.

    Basically I bought a refrigerator with this insurance company. When my fridge broke I was supposed to get a repair service done however when they came to repair my fridge it was not even fixed at all so I asked for a replacement. Then they told me that it can't be replaced. This company did not provide the service they promised me. This company is very bad and I recommend everyone to choose another insurance company. Please.

    They are horrible. My AC and well pump went (no water) in the same week during the recent NE heat wave in July 2019. Their service providers for both the AC and well pump took DAYS to set up an appointment. I could not go DAYS with no water in a house of 5!!! Then I got the well pump fixed locally b/c I had to and they would not reimburse me a nickel! Would not even consider it!!! Then they send an AC tech four days later after we complained 3x and he told me "the AC could not be fixed this b/c it's beyond repair" and told me AHS would not cover ANYTHING because the system need to be replaced!!! A total scam, but they certainly took my service fees!!! They are the worst!!!

    My AC was not working. I called American Home Shield to have somebody come out and see what was wrong with it. Someone came out, told me I needed a air handler. They said AHS would get in contact with me about my repair. When they called me they stated I didn’t have a AC Unit, it was a heat pump. Well it’s the same thing. They told me heat pumps are not covered but they would only pay for the part which was $527.00 and I would have to pay the rest which was $4,365.00 which included all the codes that had to be done to put the air handler in.

    I think that is Ridiculous. We get home warranties so we don’t have to come out of pocket like that. Which I think is not fair to a customer. What I am referring American home shield to anybody. No. Don’t be fooled by that nice ads on the TV, the nice ads on the website, the nice reviews on the website. Don’t get me wrong. Some things they will fix him.     I also put in a ticket about my dishwasher because my dishwasher was not washing my dishes. Yes the water was recycling and it yes the water was running in there but at the end of the run dishes were still not clean. They sent out a technician. He spent five minutes in my home, ran the dishwasher, told me it was working fine. I said to him how is he working fine if he’s not cleaning my dishes so some of these technicians they send out don’t do what they supposed to do for you so again be careful with American home shield. Check other ones first. Read all The fine print before you give them your money. I’ve been with them for about six years or more but never been them for big stuff. And I am definitely not satisfied with the service that I received from them. PLEASE READ THE WHOLE CONTRACT BEFORE YOU SIGN AND AGREE TO CONTRACT WITH THEM!!!!

    I have been enrolled for over 12 years and was satisfied until the last couple years. AHS has changed their policy using providers inferior to those of the past. When I request a provider utilized previously I am advised the "computer" now makes the choice. When I check with the prior provider I learn that now providers willing to accept less reimbursement are sent out. The quality of service has deteriorated.

    First let me say that my friends all tell me I am an optimistic, easy to please person. I have to call in 3 different work orders with this company. The first left us with a broken water heater for 4 days which was manageable. The second order we had to call in was for a repair for a broken fridge. The company couldn't give us a repair date for 3 weeks. They sent someone out that day to appease us, but it was a bandaid and the fridge broke the very next day. The second repair they set was scheduled for an entire week. Later up was a no show. I called the contractor and they had no record of the repair even being set up, despite having my dispatch confirmation number in hand!!

    During this time I had also called in a repair for the kitchen light. I was told the company would call within 24 hours. It's been over 2 weeks and I still have not gotten a call. I have asked twice to speak with a manager and still have not been put through during this entire 3 week fiasco of trying to get our fridge and kitchen light replaced. You are placed on 20 minute holds or longer every time you call. They are the worst!! And so sitting here currently on hold my fridge is still broken after a week and a half and my kitchen light is still not working after 3 weeks. TERRIBLE.

    Contractor came out 6/2/19, installed a thermostat and my unit has run continuously, nonstop. Water is filling my basement because system doesn't cut off and water backing up. Also, I have called for an electrician twice regarding my ceiling fans. They put in one fan that does not work properly. Light bulbs get stuck and bread off in the fan when it is time to exchange them.

    One, the technician reported to you all that someone deliberately broke the blade off. Nobody lives in my home but me, so that was a lie and he knows he was lying. But the sad part is that I am the consumer and you all will accept such a lie. In the room where the fan was exchanged there is a second fan that the company refused to exchange. Both fans are over 30 yrs. old and should have been replaced. Instead, the technician rolled up cardboard and put it between the ceiling and the fan to balance it and stop it from rocking. The one that was changed got bulbs stuck in it and I ended up paying the technician $100.00 in addition to the $100.00 deductible.

    The service that AHS has put in place would work if the technicians were integral. Instead, they are promoted by greed, trying to make up the difference by not providing the products and services we pay for because they don't feel AHS is paying them enough. Another reason for poor or half done service is so that the consumer has to make another service request. Thus, more money in their pockets. Why would I as a consumer pay my money and have to lie about a needed service. More consideration needs to be given to the consumer who pays for the service. And we pay for it with the expectation that when needed we will receive quality service. Barbara

    This is the worst home warranty company that I have ever worked with. They do not have their own in house service team, so you are scheduled with an “in network” contractor which you have to wait 24-48 hours for them to contact you just to schedule the appointment, which is typically another 3-4 days out from that conversation and unfortunately, turns out to be sub-par.. They will not reimburse you for work performed by a contractor who is out of their network or that you hired directly. AHS also directs calls to a call-center out of the country with very poor customer service support. Sure, they cover the big ticket items, but these are the items they you need fixed the same day when they go out, not a week later. Horrible experience, and not just once. Will never contract with AHS again. Buyer beware!

    I purchased my house on August 13, 2010 and I got American Home Shield free on my first year. After that, I just kept the warranty. It was 55 then but now, it's up to 61 something. But I'm on the fence about them right now. I have a hard time. You have to call and it's like a call center and that's sometimes difficult. Last time, I had my payments checked. A lot of times I have an issue with my plumbing because I have a older house. When I asked for service before, they used to send a legit plumber. Now, you get someone that maybe does it on the side and not like a commercial person that has their name on their truck type of thing and someone who is licensed. A lot of times, I get my furnace cleaned in the fall and I call someone out of the phone book. When they come, they have their names all over their truck.

    A contractor came to my house twice in a week and he said he's licensed. He had a son and he was learning the trade with him, but he was not going to school for it. They were nice guys. Sometimes he did a good enough job and sometimes he didn't. I tried telling AHS about that. When I had a leak, I told AHS that the last time the technician came, I had issues. He had to come out three times. I asked if I could have someone else. AHS gave me this other guy that works another job during the day and he does the repair on the side. He was like a handyman too but is licensed.

    In the beginning, I had Winston Plumbing and they were an actual reputable company here in Eerie. They came to my house and did my plumbing. But now, you get some guy out of Waterford that just carries cards with him. Maybe he advertises somewhere or he's in the phonebook as a plumber. When I had a claim for my stove, I've never heard of the people that AHS sent. I question whether I'm paying too much for this.

    I pay $60 some a month. Now, it's 61 something a month. That's around 700 a year. I listen to Clark Howard who is like the money guy and he despises home warranties. He thinks you're wasting your money. I'm a single girl and then I wonder if I should just try to find someone for when I get leaky faucets. I question whether I am throwing my money away. Now, I have all my appliances in my home warranty contract for when anything blows up like my hot water tank or my refrigerator. My refrigerator is dated 1994 because that's what the sticker on the back says. It's a GE and it's still kicking. But it does make noises. I have the service where if I need a new refrigerator, it would be replaced. Last time I had the refrigerator serviced, Sears came. But I don't think AHS uses Sears anymore.

    When the contractor AHS sent came on July 15th for my plumbing, I had to take Monday off. When I turned my water on for my hot water, I had to keep turning it and turning it to get the hot water then it finally came out. I told him something was wrong and he told me that I needed new pipes. I have an older home. It's in '52, but the hot water is copper pipe and the other one is the '52 pipes that are galvanized. The contractor might be skilled but I'm not 100% confident with him because every time he comes, there's an issue that doesn't get fixed. I'm kinda wondering if he really knows what he's doing.

    He said he would charge me 89 bucks but I said I was paying 75. And I was thinking that for another 10 bucks, I could get a commercial person that I could choose. I could put that money in my bank account and if I need someone, I could pick someone out of the phonebook that's a reputable company that's advertised and that is not some mom-and-pop shop.

    I'm paying 60 bucks a month to have the service and I just paid $75 for the contractor to come out twice and I'm still kinda unsure that he did it right. That's $130 something a month on this plumbing issue. Now I have to call someone else and that's gonna cost me even more money to fix his mistake. I would like to get a second opinion to see if it's my problem and if I have to get new pipes. The contractor AHS sent told me that it's an older home and the on and off switch for the valves are in the basement. For the sink, the on and off valves are in the basement too. They're not underneath the sink like everybody else's because I bought the house like that. And the tile in my bathroom is older, but it's still in good shape and I like it. It's a small bathroom. I keep everything maintained. It's just that it's older and the shut-off valves aren't right.

    For the bathtub, you have to open up this little piece that's in my linen closet that's right next to the old bathtub. You have to open up this little piece that's maybe 12 inches by 10 inches wide. It's this little wooden piece that I tape. I have one floor, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, a galley kitchen, a basement, and an attic that you have to take a ladder to get in. The contractor was telling me that I could get the PEX. These are newer pipes that would cost me $1,700 and he and his son would do it. Why am I paying for this service if I could just put that money in my bank account and anytime something goes wrong, I'll have that money available for those?

    I've had American Home Shield years back, but when I bought this house, they had it. I never used it for a year but because they kept sending me stuff, I decided I might as well get it. Recently, Choose the Right Door came out to fix my garage door which wasn't going up. The people were nice, but I did not like them at all. I ended up having someone else fix it 'cause it broke immediately. And I found out why. They didn't do a good job. I called American Home Shield and they said they'd send them back out again. When they went to come back out, I was gonna have to wait another week. I travel a lot. I cover two states. I do not have time to wait and not have my garage door. When I called Choose the Right Door, they said they were gonna have to charge me because what was wrong was not covered with my warranty. That was not true. I was very dissatisfied with them. They were not good.

    Our experience with American Home Shield has been rough for most of our time. We probably had someone out to fix our air conditioner 12 to 15 times. And it's every single season, every time it turns cold or every time it turns hot, something happens with our system, and it always had something to do with A-US Air. And we repeatedly requested to not send A-US Air, and everytime they came out, they broke something else or they repeatedly fix the same problem because they didn't install correctly.

    It was a motherboard that had blown out, and they didn't install it correctly. And then, it was a series of issues after that. That motherboard has been replaced three or four times. Right now, it's working fine. We had a completely different company came out in June. They did a complete inspection of everything that was working in our unit. And frankly, the whole thing has been replaced for the exception of the compressor outside. So, we're just gonna wait until winter and see if we have more problems.

    I like to talk to a person so I call American Home Shield when I have a claim with them. That method seems to be faster too. When I was having issues with the knob on of my hot tub dryer, Masters Appliance was given as my contractor. This was scheduled within 24 hours. That contractor was super. Their guy had to come back for a part, but it was ordered the next day so that was great. It was quick and I was very impressed. The guy showed me the old part where he took it out and explained what he had to do. It was a really great experience. I've been with American Home Shield for some years now.     I had water coming into the house and I thought it was the plumbing so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. Neace Plumbing was scheduled right away which was awesome. But there were three different occasions where it was very hard for me to understand the rep that I was working with. It took me three phone calls to get two appointments scheduled. Then, there was a Sears appointment that was a no-show and they called me that day to reschedule with me on another day. That was not fun and it was very frustrating.

    Once the Neace Plumbing tech got there, he indicated that the issue wasn't the pipe itself but the area surrounding the pipe. Water was coming through there from the outside so it wasn't actually the plumbing. The tech was wonderful. He went over and above trying to identify where the problem was by alleviating all the other possibilities. After he told me what was actually wrong, he said I had to have a foundation specialist come out.

    The first tech who came out to service my garbage disposal wasn't in contact with his office very well. He rescheduled a separate appointment and his company called me and told me that he couldn't schedule his own appointment. The rep who called rescheduled the appointment for a week later when the guy was supposed to come the next day. He came and had a garbage disposal with him. I told him that there was nothing wrong with my garbage disposal. But when he left after he changed my hose, the pipe and garbage disposal were leaking in two different places.

    That tech came back and said that the garbage disposal needed to be replaced, and he didn’t have the garbage disposal with him that time. He brought it again the next time he came but still something else leaked. The last time I had service, another tech came and he was really good. My issue was eventually fixed. Though some contractors AHS has are better than others, AHS' service has been excellent.

    Having been with American Home Shield for a while, I noticed that when I call in, there’s been a change to how they handle those calls. It seems like they’ve gone to more of a call center where there doesn’t appear to be a lot of knowledge on the people who are taking the calls. On a different note, when we noticed an electrical sound, like a shorting sound with a flicker, we filed a claim online and a guy from ERMCO came out.     American Home Shield is a distance away so, when you put a call in, you gotta wait for the process to go through the system, and then you will respond. So, I considered that as well as the distance and the time to get somebody who can take a look at the appliance. I understand that it will take at least a couple of days and maybe a week. So, we should give them some time to process through and I have no complaints.

    My washer and dryer went out and Sears, the contractor, came and looked at it. They could’ve been faster but I’m very patient. Somebody would have complained because when your washer and dryer breaks, you need it right away but I still appreciated the service because it was fairly fixed. I didn’t react when AHS sent someone to look at it and then, they called me back and let me know it will be replaced. I haven't gotten the washer yet. Other than that, my experience with AHS has been good. I have had them for two years and I would recommend them.

    We moved in and we thought the lights were out. None of the fixtures were working. I didn’t know if it was the electrical behind the fixtures or a switch, so my wife submitted a service request with American Home Shield. She did that online and the process was pretty simple. Schen Electric took a day and a half to come to our home. They did a great job. They found out that new switches were needed and they swapped out another switch for another outlet that was kinda messed up.

    Submitting a claim with American Home Shield for our pool was easy and quick. I did it online. And the contractor was able to come out after five days. Everything was perfect. It was right in the beginning of pool season, so I knew it was gonna be around that time. So, I wasn't upset about the time it took for them to get here.     My experience with American Home Shield for my recent claim was outstanding. Their rep was very efficient. The plumber was great and the response was as fast as you could possibly expect it.     The air conditioning stopped all of a sudden, out of the blue. And the same day, I called American Home Shield and the response was immediate. They were so nice because they referred me to a contractor. The contractor gave me an appointment four days after. However, I live in California and the temperature there was three digits. So I called AHS back and I said the contractor told me four days but I couldn't wait. So they stayed with me over the phone, very nice of them, and they found a contractor where he could show up on the second day, in the morning.

    The contractor was so responsive and on-time. He showed up and stayed at my house for four hours. There was a problem in the cable that was cut. So he fixed the cable, took care of the AC, stayed with me half an hour until the house became really cold and made sure that everything was okay and up and running. And he completed the job in a very decent way. It was an excellent experience. I couldn't expect better than that. Everything is working perfectly. I recommend AHS.

    My experience with American Home Shield was pretty phenomenal this time. It’s always really good, but I hadn’t even hit print to print off my service request when I did it online before the company called and scheduled me for two days later. For an air conditioner claim in the middle of the summer, that is pretty phenomenal. The gentleman took care of replacing the parts that were faulty and we haven’t had any problem with our air conditioner up to this point.     The washer and dryer wasn't draining all the way. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the first contractor they assigned said he didn’t have time, so I had to get a second one and he came out the same day. He cleaned up the water pump and thought that was gonna be it. He wasn't trying to do more for me or anything like that. I wished it would’ve been fixed right, ordered a new water pump or something, or figured out exactly what was wrong with it. He told me I have 30 days to call them if it wasn’t working right. But everything was good. Although the issue is not resolved, they’re gonna call them back to get them back out there.

    We are fans of American Home Shield. If I get a nickel for every time I refer people to them, I’d be doing pretty well. We’re very happy with American Home Shield and I tell people about them a lot. One of the reasons why we have American Home Shield is I love the idea that if my entire air conditioning goes kaput, I don’t really have to worry about it because it’s covered under American Home Shield. It’s a real peace of mind.

    This last claim, it took a few days longer than normal because we weren’t the only ones whose air conditioning was having a hard time in this heatwave. The guy came out Friday and saw what the problem was within seconds. He was awesome. It took him 10 minutes to repair the whole thing and it was great. The air conditioning is working. Our house is cool again so we're very happy. As for filing claims, we used to call but the wait time was usually not good. So now, we just do it on the computer. We were a little old-fashioned when it came to filing a claim but sitting on the phone for half an hour gets rid of any old fashion in you.

    I've had the American Home Shield for the last two and a half years and the response is good. They got some really good companies that they work with. They come out when they say they're gonna come out. If they don't, then I call back and AHS schedule somebody else for me. Their contractors explain to you what’s going on, like if there’s an additional cost. When the air conditioner was pretty much blowing hot air and I called AHS, Home Service Corp was sent out and I had to pay additional $250 because the Freon was down. Now, it's so cold here that I have to turn the AC down. I'm very happy with the service and everything that AHS say they’re gonna do, they’ve done.

    I had a plumbing issue in two bathrooms and I called the 800 number of American Home Shield for setting up our appointment, which they made for me. They gave me the date and time on when to expect the contractor, and the guy came right when he said he was coming. I asked him to call me when he was en route, which he did, and showed up right in time. I've worked with this company before and this guy was very good. He was very efficient and he probably got it done quicker than the previous job. I questioned him about the float level because it seemed really low. He said that I should not worry about it.     My sink disposal just lodged from my pipe. And so, there was a water leak. Submitting a claim online to AHS was amazing. I filed on a Friday, so I wasn’t really expecting anybody to come out over the weekend. But, the contractors contacted me Monday, and then they were out today between 11:00 and 12:00. It was pretty fast. I had somebody come out and fix my furnace last fall as well, and they were super good, too. They came out and did it really fast. Someone came out and fixed my air conditioner as well, which was awesome. However, there was a charge for the Freon that I wasn’t expecting. I didn’t get notice about that until I had already filed the claim, and they were already on the way. So, that was kind of disappointing because that was an additional expense I wasn’t planning for. But other than that, I’ve been really happy with everything AHS has done. I’d recommend them.

    I did a claim online with American Home Shield for my air conditioner and they responded quickly. And I called the company, and while I was talking to the company, they got the paperwork sent to them, and the next day, they sent a guy out. He looked at the unit and he said he couldn't find anything wrong with the unit. We've had about more than six days of 90-plus degrees weather. And he said that the only thing he had seen was the coils needed cleaning. When I told him that he was out here for the service call, he said it was not a service. It was a maintenance. So, it would be $250 for me to do that.

    From what I understand, he was called to come out and do what needed to be done to get the air conditioner operating properly. I wasn't gonna pay him $250. But I thought when we called for the service, whatever he finds, he was gonna take care of it if it was something under the contract. Now, I didn't know that cleaning the coil wasn't under the contract. He left, and I just got somebody clean the coils that didn't charge me $250.

    I have recommended American Home Shield to a couple of neighbors and they said American Home Shield has done wonderful work. I also haven't had an issue where the service contractor didn't fix what they came out for, except for the plumber. He sucks. I had two issues. One issue was that my kitchen sink was leaking through the basement. The other issue was that the tub was draining a little too slowly for me. I asked them if it was an issue and if they could look at it. But when the plumber looked at the drain, he said that he couldn't do anything. He said he would have to take everything apart and that it's not covered in my warranty. So my husband fixed the issue.

    But other than that, everybody came out and did what they were supposed to do. American Home Shield sent Mesa Mechanical out for my AC and the person who came out fixed the issue on the spot. My air conditioner had been running a little hot and it was leaking downstairs. When the contractor came out, he introduced himself and said what he was there for. He asked where the problem was and what was wrong. I showed him the issue and he said that my AC unit is an older model but that it runs really well. He changed the sump pump, checked everything else out for me and said everything was going to be fine.

    I went online to submit a claim fro my washing machine with American Home Shield. I took a snapshot of who was supposed to call me and repair it, and they said that I could schedule the date, and I scheduled it for the same day that I had filed a claim because they had an availability open. And when I did that, I was expecting them to come that day, and they didn’t. I had waited for 36 hours, and then I called them and told them that I was just following up to see if they are coming. They said, “Oh, sorry. We got tied up. But he’ll be there tomorrow," which would have been yesterday. And my wife was there, and nobody called or came. I’m disappointed.     I had a problem with the first plumbing company that American Home Shield sent out. They sent me some outfit out of Wichita, and their base was out in Kansas. They weren’t local here to where I live. The guy came and negligently left a drain line disconnected, and then two days later it flooded my house. He called me a liar and said that I did it. I ended up replacing a couple of hundred square feet of flooring and I have not yet seen any reimbursement from anybody. The only thing American Home Shield did was cancel that contractor and tell them not to come back, and they hooked me up with Josh Short Plumbing. Josh Short is a good friend of mine, and he’s a local guy. And he did a wonderful job. The owner of the first plumbing company finally called me and was real nice about it, but they didn’t try to make it right.

    I'm satisfied with American Home Shield, but they could’ve done a better job of trying to protect me in making sure that I was taken care of with the bad experience I had with one of the contractors. They should never let anyone ever use the contractor that initially came to my house ever again because it was a terrible experience. I plan on switching to another home warranty.

    I called American Home Shield for a rekey service. The person I talked to didn’t seem to know all the details in a rekey service. I asked him what exactly a rekey is, and he goes, “Oh, they can either come out and get the new key for you, and then they can change the locks for you.” When I talked to the locksmith guy, he said he doesn’t change the lock. He just does the rekeying.

    The information I got from a representative over American Home Shield and the contractor were completely different. For one, he doesn’t change the locks. And then, I told American Home Shield that I only have a key for the main entrance. The previous owner didn’t leave any other keys for any other doors. I asked if I have to pay for any extra charges to the contractor. He said I don't have to. But when I talked to the contractor, he said if I don’t have any key for any other room, he has to charge me like four more dollars per lock. But everything is okay other than those.

    Our hot water heater died one time and that was covered pretty well by American Home Shield. The tech from John T. Cannon Plumbing did a really good job and the hot water heater he put in was exactly like the one taken out. But then, he left one thing that wasn't quite right. I have a recirculating system on the hot water, and there was air between the pump and the tank. He thought he had bled it down, but he didn’t quite get it. I called him and he talked me through the issue but still wouldn't fix it. I finally figured the problem out and fixed it myself. Once I bled the system down, it was fine.

    However, I have a complaint about AHS. We have three air conditioning systems in our house and they’re all of the old R22 system. So, what happens is we have a $50 part and we have a $100 or $150 service call. Recently, we had an issue with our aircon and we put $1,200 worth of Freon in. We also had another issue with the AC the other day and my neighbor and I looked into it. The problem was a capacitor which is a $17 item and we changed it ourselves. We saved ourselves the service call plus the part. That was a whole lot cheaper than it would be, if we called American Home Shield and go through them. I'm dissatisfied with the deal with the Freon. Also, some of AHS's contractors come from far off when they could be dealing with local people. Despite these issues, our experience with AHS has been pretty good overall.

    My most recent claim that I had with AHS was the air conditioning unit. Air Doctor and Heating came out and they did a fine job. It ended up being the coil to the air conditioner had gotten punctured. The Freon had leaked out, and they were trying to figure out if they need to get a new one or repair the original one. When I talked to them 10 days later, they had tried to repair it and they said that they had done two tests and both had failed. But for whatever reason, on the third test, it worked. And then, they came back, I had to pay for the Freon, but they put the coil back in, and so far, so good.

    The guy who came was fine. He wasn't my usual guy. The guy who used to come out was Scott and he was really good. He had been coming here for a long time. And they told me that he left, and I was really disappointed to hear that. But this guy seemed to know what he was doing and he was nice, and he showed up on time. He did what he was supposed to do and it seems fine. I have no complaints with him at all.

    I had a nightmare situation with American Home Shield with another air conditioning contractor. It really took the whole summer, I went with one part of my house without an air conditioner. I was really mad about it. But Scott came in, he fixed the problem after a whole lot of jumping through a whole lot of hoops. So I was just disappointed that he left. I would always request Air Doctor from now on. I would recommend them.

    I went online to American Home Shield's website and submitted a service request for my garbage disposal. They sent someone out, and he fixed it. He was really good. He was very helpful, very friendly, and came out the next day, so it was good. On the AHS website, when you go to submit something, there needs to be an ability to add like a note to the comment. Sometimes, the information doesn't always come up right. I had one where I did a dishwasher, but I couldn't select my brand of dishwasher because the site was having an issue. If there was a note field, I could have just typed in the note field what my model and manufacturer was. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with American Home Shield.

It turned out that there was some ground thing that happened when a tremendous amount of lightning strikes here in the local Tampa area, and it naturally blew up some little cylinder on the outside unit that needed to be replaced.     I've been very satisfied with my experience thus far with American Home Shield. My HVAC system's fan would blow but the compressor wouldn't kick on. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield but then the first time I called AHS set something up but that wasn't gonna be until a week later. That couldn't work so I called back and they found another place. A tech from there was out the next day. I liked how he was quick and thorough. He knew what he was doing. He ran the tests and figured what it was that had to be fixed. Thereafter, he had to take the outside unit apart and cleaned the coils that were stopped-up with dirt. He replaced a capacitor as well. Now my HVAC works better than it has ever worked. I’ll renew my contract with AHS as soon as it’s up.

And so, he fixed it and it was working better. And then, it started doing it again and getting an ice build-up. He came back out and did some kind of adjustment on it.     My AC was freezing up and losing Freon. When I went online to file a service request with AHS, the process was pretty easy. Then after two days, A&A Heating & Cooling came out. They diagnosed it and they had to wait for a part. It came in the next week and after they put it in, the unit worked for a few days. But it died again. So, they came back out and they had to switch that part out again because apparently, it was defective. Then we waited for another week for that part to come in and when it did, they put it in. But after a couple of days, the AC went out again. So, the tech returned and fixed it. But now, it's back out again. So, they're coming out this morning to figure it out. This has been going on since July 2nd, so it's been a month already.

    But all those times they came out were under one service fee and the only thing that's crazy or excessive with this stuff is the charge for Freon. Home Shield sent the email talking about how they only cover a certain amount, but the air conditioner company’s charging an exorbitant amount for Freon. I know how much Freon costs and I have a friend that works for an air conditioner company where it only costs $100 for 25 pounds of Freon for them. But American Home Shield's contractor charges $55 per pound.

    I had problem with my garbage disposal and I submitted a claim with AHS to have a tech come out and check it. I did it online, paid the $100 fee that supposed to be paid, and a few minutes after I submitted my claim, they sent me an email letting me know that someone would be getting in touch with me. The next day, the Short's Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Service got in touch with me and set an appointment to come out and fix my disposal. Their service was great. That morning, they sent me a text to let me know that the person was on their way and the person's name. Then, he got here and introduced himself. And he came in and he changed it out. At the end of it, he let me know what he had done, gave me the paperwork, I signed, and he left. He was pleasant and my experience for that claim was perfect.

    But when things happen in the house emergency-wise, AHS' people need to understand that their claims process doesn't work emergency-wise. There is no option for doing emergency. Last week, I had my hot water heater go out and I called American Home Shield. The lady just kept saying that I needed to go through the system and pay the $100. I tried to explain to her that it was an emergency and I couldn't wait 24 hours. But she's just a paid employee and she didn't wanna hear me. So, I just hang up. I had to pay $1580 to resolve my heater problem and AHS didn't help me for that particular issue. They need to really do something about their process and come up with a system where when it's an emergency situation and something is happening in your house, you can get them and somebody can come out.

    My washing machine went out. It wasn’t working. I called the toll free number of AHS and their rep was good. She set it up for me. She told me the company that was gonna come out. We set up the date and time. Everything worked out fine. The contractor sent by AHS was great as well. My appointment was between 8:00 and 10:00, and he was there like 8:20. He called ahead of time and said that he was on his way. I let him know that my doorbell wasn’t working right and he called me when he got outside. He told me everything that he was going to do. He brought me in and showed me the disassembled washing machine and gave me a recommendation. He was great.     Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been very good. I called them and they took the information and made the appointment. They also sent me a text or an email for when to expect the contractor. Then the contractor came out and they did what they were supposed to do. The interaction has always been good with the contractor as well. They're all very personable and very good guys. But for some reason, they didn't get the AC fixed. I’d go back outside the next day or two and it’d be leaking again. There was water in my pan because the overflow thing was clogged up.     I'm a Realtor so I've been familiar with American Home Shield policies for many years and I sell a lot of them to clients. I also recommend to my friends to insure their homes all the time. American Home Shield is a great organization and I've had nothing but positive results. Sometimes, I wish they had more vendors though. I kind of live in a rural area and it's limited, in terms of getting people signed up to do the work. I have an AC claim and this one is coming from about 40 miles away. There's nobody right in our little area and they're busy folks so sometimes, it takes a little time.

    On the other hand, I call claims in to American Home Shield and within 24 hours, I get a call from the vendor. With this claim, I had a response from American Heating & Cooling within 24 hours. We set a schedule then they came, analyzed the problem and sent in their findings. I talked with someone from American Home Shield and they informed me that there was a part that had been suggested but that part would not be available until way after air conditioning season. With that, I can't run that unit. A claim has been set for the outside portion to be replaced and that part has been ordered based on their estimates. It should be in by the end of this week and then American Heating & Cooling and I would coordinate for the installation.

So, he added Freon to the system and charged me more. Everything is working great but I got charged more doing it this way than me just calling my own personnel. I expected that Home Shield warranty would pay more. I paid $100 plus the cost of the Freon when I could have called somebody and probably gotten a cheaper visit than $100. American Home Shield is too expensive.

    My most recent claim with American Home Shield is fairly complicated. I’m still waiting to hear back from the electrician. He hasn’t finished resolving the problem yet. Before that, I had a plumber come to replace the main valve on the water line. He caused a problem when he touched the ground wire and electrocuted himself. It caused several outlets in my home to no longer function.

    I did the original claim online to get the plumber but when everything went awry, I called and talked to people. They assured me that they were going to cover sending the electrician. They weren’t gonna charge me for that because the plumber caused the problem. American Home Shield did send an electrician who came fairly quickly to make sure there was no immediate danger and he assessed that everything was in safe order. He did a very quick assessment. He didn’t fix what got broken and he said he was gonna come back after he returned from vacation to fix the outlets that got fried. I have left him several messages and haven’t heard back from him. But American Home Shield has been very responsive and good. The reps have been great. When I’ve dealt with them, they've tried to get things resolved as quickly as possible.

    I had someone come out to evaluate an air conditioning unit. The online claim with American Home Shield was straightforward to do. I've noticed that regardless of internet speed, it's a little bit slower to connect to their website. But I was able to submit the claim and get everything done and they were able to get back to me within two days. There was a follow-up repair needed because the original installer installed the unit incorrectly which was frustrating. But they were able to come out a little bit quicker.     We recently called in for two claims. One is for the top-loader in the other house. It took so many days before the contractor could get out. Then he came and thought he would fix the part. He ordered that part, came back, and fixed it. But it was the same thing happening as when he came out so we called again and it took him so many days before he could come out. The guy misdiagnosed it. He thought he fixed the part but it wasn't the right one. Now, they've ordered a part and it's taking almost two weeks and they still haven't got the part in to come back and fix the top-loader. If it is waiting for a part, what's not fun is it's out of their control, it's taking weeks. I think it would get in sooner than that. I don't understand that part of it and that's what I'm complaining about. I think we'd get some kind of reimbursement for laundry but we don't have receipts to show that. My son has a family of seven and they're having to go to the laundromat. It's really crazy.

    With the other washer claim on our house, we also had to wait for the part but it was just like a day and another contractor fixed it. It's working fine. We also had a claim with the ice maker in the past and somebody came for that. In the end, American Home Shield sent someone out who knew what they were doing, which is trial and error on the AHS part. Overall I would recommend AHS. I've had them for many years and they've done good by us most of the time.

    I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for my air condition and it was good with the rep on the phone. Myers Comfort Specialists then called me back but it took seven days to get them out to me. They said they were booked. I called AHS to see if they have somebody else and the guy that I spoke to told me there was nobody else that could come out. The tech was really nice, though, once Myers got here. He put a new fan motor on and charged the unit back up. He said it was low on Freon.

    Myers has been out here five times for the same unit so, I'm not really pleased. Before this, they came out on April 29 and the guy said he found a wire on the compressor to be shorted and he repaired it. A month later, it’s out again. But with AHS, it hasn't been that bad overall. They recently replaced a new stove for me. I like American Home Shield.

    With my latest claim with American Home Shield, it appeared to me that the service guy was intentionally trying to get out of doing the service. He didn't fix it. He analyzed the dishwasher as needing a new motor. But he didn't say that, he said, "You need a new motor." My wife was taking care of it. I'm handicapped and I wasn't with her. What's wrong with the dishwasher is that it won't wash on the upper part. The upper arm isn't working. He analyzed that the pump needed to be replaced. He didn't put any of that on the work order, and he had my wife sign a blank work order. But in the small print above the signature, it says that you guarantee that this work was complete. So it was a deceptive form. He didn't do anything but analyze the problem. And he had her sign that blank form and then he left.

    I reported it to Home Shield that I needed a call back. And whoever I spoke to from Home Shield said that he would put us in for a call back, and they should call back within so many hours and they never called back. The guy that I talked at Home Shield when I was asking for the recall just happened to mention that, evidently, the technician told them there wasn't anything wrong with the dishwasher. But he didn't do anything to fix it, and the problem is still there in the dishwasher. It doesn't work right. It's gotta pump water up to the upper spinner up at the top to get those upper dishes, and it doesn't do that. I'm very dissatisfied with this. I paid $75 to get my dishwasher fixed, and they claim that if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. My dishwasher isn't fixed.

Our system had been repaired, parts replaced, and after 20 years some times new is the best route.     My air conditioner wasn’t working and A/C Rescue, Inc. came out to service it. I would prefer to do my claims with American Home Shield online but their online service doesn’t let you put any details. It just lets you list an appliance but not what’s wrong or what’s happening. Our actual issue turned out to be something wrong with the downstairs unit that was triggering both units to shut off. So, when the contractor came out, he said, “Well, it only says AC. It doesn’t say check more than one.” So, we tried to tell them what was going on. And so, he replaced a capacitor on the upstairs unit. The upstairs unit has been working fine, but the downstairs unit wasn’t. And so, we had to wait and get them to come out again.

    I had to call American Home Shield and argue with them to get them to put it on the same claim, to get them to understand that it was still the same issue, and that the guy never looked at both units. And so, they sent someone out who replaced the capacitor on the downstairs unit. But within two days, we had no air again. And we’re like, “Something is making this trigger. Something is making it jump off.” And it turned out that the compressor had a short that was triggering it to shut it down. So, all in all, it took three weeks on a Texas summer to get it repaired.

    Also, within two weeks of us getting our calls with the AC repair, our washing machine started leaking. And that one took six weeks, and I had to bring all the laundry to the Laundromat. The part finally came in after five weeks. But when they came to put in the part, they said there was another part they should have ordered that they didn’t order. So then, we had to wait for the second part to come in. And so, that added another week on to it. AHS offered me a $400 buyout on the $2,200 washing machine. They said I could either wait six weeks or take the $400, which was no way I was gonna do. I had to spend $80 something a week for laundry at the Laundromat. I ended up losing $400 just by waiting. The machine's been fine since and I appreciate the work that they did. Days later, our refrigerator started having a problem, and that was fixed quickly without any issues.

    Moreover, the times that I’ve had to call their customer service line, I’m talking to people in the Philippines, and they are on a totally different time zone. It’s a 12-hour difference, and they have absolute zero understanding of what I’m talking about. And then when I asked to talk with a supervisor, they said, “There’s no supervisors available.” I finally did speak with a supervisor, but I had to get kind of ugly with them on the phone until I got one, and I waited for like 40 minutes until I got one. Then, the supervisor was like, “Yeah, all you have to do is ask for one and they’ll get you.” And I’m like, “No. I waited 40 minutes.” All I really wanted them to do was to try to do a search on how much longer it was gonna take for a machine part to come in. All in all, I can’t say that I’m very dissatisfied with AHS. I’m willing to continue my year of contract and see how experiences are moving forward.

    The refrigerator stopped cooling. I called in my claims with AHS a couple of times, but this time I did it by the website and it seemed like I’ve gotten a call-back from the contractor quicker by calling in than I did by the website. But there were two different contractors. The ones with the washer and dryer called back that same day. With the website, it was the next day. Both of them were very knowledgeable, and usually they were quick fixers. With the refrigerator, they had to make two calls. A matter of fact, the other man just came and re-diagnosed the problem and was able to fix it in a few minutes where he got it working. So now we have to see whether it’ll continue to work.

    The fan, the first time, they felt it was clogged up with dirt, because I just bought the house in January, and I never thought to look underneath it. And so they unclogged it, and then apparently, this time, the fan wasn’t turning. They took it apart, got the fan turning a little bit, and he said it should work. But if it doesn’t work, then it means it needs a new fan. So we’re hoping that it’s gonna work for a while now. Other than the warranties have been good. It seems expensive to call, pay $75 for a guy to come and spend 10 minutes at your house. But I’m sure that it’s cheaper than just calling a repair store directly, so it’s okay. AHS had done everything they said they were gonna do.

    Filing a claim with American Home Shield seems pretty easy. You just call and pay the 75 bucks then they get ahold of somebody. They’re kind of slow though. We've got another claim in right now for our dishwasher and the technician came out to look. Now, they have to have permission to be able to do this and that. It seems like that process takes way too long. We haven't had a dishwasher now in two weeks. And for the other claim, we still haven't heard back. But for the hot water, the contractor was prompt and they came prepared. They were able to get everything taken care of with that one visit.

    I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for the AC furnace and the process was easy, but it was a little confusing since it was my first claim. They should make a little more feedback and communication. The first reason I called was the AC wasn't working in summer. So the tech came out, and inspected the AC and the furnace or air handler. He said that the old system was shot but since he only came out for the AC, I should put in anther request for my air handler. It was okay with me, so I called American Home Shield and told them that the air handler is broken and they need to take a look at it. They said okay.

    But the tech said that he won't come out and then he just gave me a piece of document to record again. Then they charged another $100. So I called again because the tech didn't come out to anything so it didn't make sense for me to pay for any extra man-hours. I spoke to somebody from India and it didn't help. He even asked what "AC" was. But other than that, I've recommended American Home Shield to a friend.

    The air conditioner was not blowing cold air. When the repair guy showed up, he was very professional and very well-groomed. My wife also said he was courteous. He replaced a part and the air conditioner has been working fine. We had a different problem with the air conditioner a year ago and American Home Shield had to pay around $4,000 for the Freon. But it’s frustrating that you can’t call American Home Shield and talk to somebody. You always have to email them or send it to them.     AHS' $75 co-pay is a little steep. If I was to have called the plumber myself and my issue is something simple, it would have been $75 or less. I’ll take the $75 a month if I had to pay that per visit plus my monthly expense also. Still, I renewed my AHS warranty after I had it for free the first year. One time, I had a water leak and there were two or three spots in my hall where water was under the hardwood floor going swish, swish, swish. It turned out that the issue was the AC drain from the humidity. The techs unclogged it and did things to help prevent the issue in the future.

    We broke our AC unit. It kinda exploded and made the whole house shake for an amount of time. Then I turned it off and submitted a claim with AHS online. It was super easy and I’ve done it before for other items in the house that went bad. They sent out A & R Complete Service and they were really good. They came out the next day and the work they did was pretty solid. They showed me the air handler that blew itself up then I talked to the main lead. He told me what was wrong and how long they will take to fix it. He said that they could get it fixed that day but it’d be $800 out of pocket, which I elected not to do. Then they had to reschedule it, but it was right in the middle of the weekend. Still, they came out when they could and they completely fixed the issue on Tuesday.     We recently filed a claim for a plumbing issue. There was a tiny little leak in our storage room and it was coming from a pipe that was in an exposed ceiling. We filed the claim with American Home Shield over the weekend and it was easy but I was surprised with how long it took. The contractor called us on Monday and the earliest they could come was Wednesday but I had them come on Thursday ‘cause of our schedule. Had it been a bigger leak, I would’ve pitched a little fit and told them that they needed to get out here. But we just had a little bucket under it, and it was fine.

    The contractor repaired it but I wasn’t super impressed. I felt like they were a little bit sloppy. I asked if I should move stuff out of the way and they said, “No, no. It’s fine.” Then they were sloshing dirty pipe water all over my stuff and didn’t clean up everything when they left. They didn’t empty the buckets that they used. Otherwise, they seemed like they knew what they were doing. They put a patch on it, and everything seems to be fine.

    I did a claim for the bathroom and the sink. The bathroom is fully fixed. It’s not leaking inside the bath and there’s no water on the floor inside the bathroom or in the living room. When the guy fixed the bathroom, he put in like an intake and outtake valve. I had to pay ‘cause it was not covered by American Home Shield. They did a good job ‘cause the guy was real friendly. He sat down and explained everything to me. He told me what to do with the wall 'cause he had to cut a hole in it. He told me to check with American Home Shield and see if that is covered or not. They are gonna do the wall and put like a little door there because if it happens again, instead of continuing cutting that hole, they're gonna look at doing something different. They were really helpful. However, the guy said there was nothing wrong with the kitchen sink but it’s wet under the sink now. The stuff in the cabinet is wet.

    My refrigerator is having an issue where the icemaker keeps leaking down the door onto my floor and staining it. It's in my second house that we plan on retiring to.     I have been with AHS for this house since June but I had a house in California that I just sold in June as well, so I have been with them for eight years. For my most recent claim, I made a phone call to them for my air conditioning unit and the rep was very nice. I was set up with one company, which didn’t respond to my phone call. So, I called back and the rep set me up with L&T who was out there the next day. That was a great experience. Since then, my AC has been working with no problems.

    I had a leaking pipe one time and I sent American Home Shield an email at around 11 o'clock at night. They responded with the contractor who would be coming out. I called that contractor the next morning and they had somebody come through. The tech looked at it and said he had to come back the next day as they had to contact American Home Shield and make sure that everything was clear. They came out again the next day and fixed the issue.

    We recently had a problem with the HVAC unit. There was a line that ended up being clogged, and it was causing a puddle underneath the condenser. And in the process of selling the home, the homeowner inspection found it, and so we had to get it fixed. We made a claim with American Home Shield online, which was easy. The contractor came out in two days. And his professionalism and quality of work were good. The only issue that we had was as a result of the home sale, the buyer’s agent required a receipt that said exactly what was done to fix it. And initially, the receipt that we got from them was very generic and said that they showed up and they fixed the problem. But it didn’t say what the problem was or what they did to fix it. And it probably took two weeks for us to get an actual statement of work of what it was that they actually did. And it was multiple phone calls back-and-forth to try and get that statement from them.

    The drains in our primary bathroom were draining slowly, particularly the bathroom, the sink, and the commode. We called American Home Shield and they submitted it to the local plumber. We called them and our experience was very smooth. I have to pay a deductible, but that goes with the territory. When the contractor showed up, he was on time, polite and professional. Everything was perfect until this morning when our toilet overflowed. We’re still having some issues with our toilet and when the contractor was there, he said he was going to report this, that he noted some problems with the toiled. He even suggested perhaps replacing it. Still, we’ve had an extremely positive experience to this point, and we look forward to working with them in the future.

    We had a plumbing issue so I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. It was easy to do, and their website was user-friendly. I was notified that I would hear from someone within 24 hours. And then, they would call to solidify a time. So, both of those things were done. The contractor was here on time. He was able to do what needed to be done. He just told me the job was finished, but he didn't give me any explanation. So, I did have to ask him to get those in particular because he didn't share that.

    Once the repair was done, everything is fine. We were just on hold. From the time that I put in the request to when the contractor came, it took two days. Now, the two days was the turnaround. Especially when you're talking about things being backed up in water, I would have preferred something sooner, but it worked out. We made the adjustment. I was not satisfied with my first claim with American Home Shield. But this time, I was satisfied with it.

    We had an AC problem and submitting a claim online with AHS was fairly easy, yet I would've liked for it to have been a little more expedient being that we were in a 100-degree weather. They sent out Affordable Heat, a tech that services a big area, and the guy who came out had been out here twice for two different issues with the air conditioner. He was excellent. If they had other techs that weren’t up to that quality, it would be a bad thing. But he analyzed the problem quickly and was very courteous.     I called American Home Shield to let them know that I had an issue with my AC cooling. They scheduled somebody to come out. But it was really alarming for me that the lady said that the ticket that they put in was a request and that it would be up to 48 hours before I would hear from a technician to actually schedule an appointment and to come out to do an assessment to find out what was wrong with the AC then possibly repair it. I told the lady that was unacceptable as it was an AC issue in the middle of the summer in Texas.

    She put in to have the order expedited. I had to call the repairman because I didn't wanna sit and wait for them to call me. I wanted to be proactive. I reached out to the company at 7:00 AM the next morning. The guy said that he would be out by between 11 o'clock and 1:00 PM. He was timely when he came out and he called before he came too per my request. He was very helpful and explained what he was gonna do.     I noticed one day when I came home, the air conditioner unit downstairs was not working. It was set on 72, but the temperature was 81. And then the upstairs unit was set on 72, and it was blowing out 77 is what the thermostat read. I submitted a claim online to AHS and it was pretty easy. When I filed it, it was around 6 o’clock at night, so I didn’t figure anybody would come out then. Within just a few moments, I had a notification on the email that said they were contacting the service provider, I should hear from them in the morning. Rapp’s tried to reach out to me but couldn’t get in touch with me, so I got another email that said, “Please contact your contractor. They tried to reach out but couldn’t get in touch with you.” So, then I, in turn, followed up with a phone call and got everything scheduled on the phone.

    The contractors were very nice and got to it very quickly. Once they got it scheduled, they gave me a four-hour window. He gave me a 12:00 to 4:00 window. He called me at 4 o’clock and said, “I am leaving Asheville now. I’m on my way to you.” He then, in turn, called me at 4:30 and said, “I’m stuck in traffic, but I’m still on my way. I just wanted to let you know that I didn’t forget about you.” He was very courteous when he arrived. He put his little shoe booties on and came in the house, explained everything to me, and was actually able to fix the problem at hand with the downstairs unit while he was there.

    The downstairs unit, which was the reason for the service request, but I actually put in there that I wanted him to check the upstairs as well. The downstairs unit seems to be working fine now. The upstairs unit, he did inform me, is on its way out. He did some temperature checks. The return air was sucking in the hot air like it’s supposed to. It was sucking in 77, but it was blowing out 67. So, he let me know that, “There’s a restriction somewhere, and your unit is probably not gonna last much longer.”

    I was gonna call AHS and let them know that ‘cause I didn’t know if he noted that on his paperwork. So, the upstairs unit is still struggling. But because the downstairs unit is working, the upstairs unit is just never cutting off. It’s having to run constantly to keep that temperature at 73. I raised it a little bit to keep it from having to work so hard to keep it as cool as we all like it. So, I’m not for sure how much longer that unit’s gonna last. But I was very pleased with both parties involved, American Home Shield and Rapp’s, how they handled the service request and the speed in which it was handled. I’ve already referred AHS to friends and realtors too.

    Overall, my experience with American Home Shield is good. And I had the experience in having the technicians repair the old furnace system as well as the garage gate. And overall, everything was good and the service was perfect. However, the first time the furnace was repaired, the technician came twice. The first time, it took one week. And I found out they didn’t bring the device, so he came again. So it took twice for the technician to come and it was long. So, I hope they can shorten the time if they can. But the heater system is good now, and the garage gate is functioning perfectly too. I will recommend AHS to my friends.

    When I was contacted by the sales team at American Home Shield, I asked specifically what plan fully covered my home and that was their best policy as I wanted everything in my home covered as much as possible including my pool in the back yard. I was sold a 3x3 Combo plan and was reassured it was the absolute best plan to cover everything in my home, and this is where the LIES begin.

    So, three months after purchasing my home warranty, my A/C goes out, I figure, that it was a lucky/smart move getting this home warranty on suggestion of my family members since I live alone and work crazy hours, it would be better to be able to make a phone call to get something fixed as I just don't have the time or in some cases like this one the knowledge to complete. So, as I said earlier, the A/C went out, in Texas, in the middle of summer, so I called American Home Shield, they dispatched someone to my house 2 days later, yup, you guessed it, 2 days.

    The technician came out of the attic and said the condenser coil was a solid block of ice most likely meaning the condenser coil was leaking Freon and that he would have to return the next day or whenever his schedule would allow him to. Lucky for me he was able to return the next morning and diagnose the problem as exactly what we thought that the condenser coil was leaking.

    So in order to replace the coil, which can be replaced individually, they instead have to replace the ENTIRE air handler unit because the house is pure electric. This means they have to disassemble the system to remove it, and then reassemble it, in the process, all the Freon that is left in the system from it leaking is lost, and guess what, Freon is $45.00 per pound, so obviously it has to be recharged completely which is about 8 pounds before it will work again, but this FANTASTIC plan, the best one they have, upon having a whole new unit installed, only covers $10.00 per pound, which was the first insult.

    Secondly, it took them 6 hours to tell me a quote, when I called customer service (just a guess here, but I honestly think their customer service is outsourced to foreign countries due to the very heavy and almost not understandable accents or dialects) of the customer service associates, first one left me on hold for 20ish minutes, second one hung up on me, third one refused to allow me to talk to anyone else, and NONE OF THEM could find my contract or my quote to get the work actually done.

    So at this point I called the contractor back and asked them what my next step was and that American Home Shield had to order the part, so there was nothing they could do until they (American Home Shield) did that. I asked them how long that would take approximately, because know one knows what or how much time this stuff takes, and they told me "no idea" "could be up to 2 weeks". so this is where I am as of today with American Home Shield's Home Warranty process, and will be happy to update any further as we go along.

    Our pool company that has been servicing our pool for over three years noticed that the pool pump was not working correctly and stated that the bearings in the pump needed to be replace. We informed them that we had a home warranty and we would call them. We put in a request and they sent out Silver Valley Pools and the tech arrived onsite and replaced some gasket and stated that yes the bearings do need to be replaced but his experience with American Home Shield is they will not replace the bearings and that we would have to wait until the whole pump stopped working.

    I contacted American Home Shield to informed them that the bearings in the pump needs to be replaced and they stated that per the tech the bearings are going out but it is working as of right now and that we would have to wait until the pool pump motor blow or stopped working and then put in another service. Why would I pay another $100 deductible for the same issue. All I want is my pool pump fixed as to not cause any other issues but they won't do anything. Their service is the worst and we are still waiting for it to be resolved.

Called to contractor 3 times, called American Home Shield 3 times and no response. Left a number for a Customer Service Manager to call me back, no response.     Udpated on 08/05/2019: This is a continuation of our existing problem. AHS offered us a cash payout of 575 which wont even cover the parts. Prior to the cash offer we had been trying to make the appt. to have our AC fixed for 1-2 weeks. The contractor doesn't call them back. I called yesterday and AHS said they would follow up. Never happened. I called today, AHS left a message for the contractor. They will never call back. I will call AHS twice a day for the rest of the week and then file a complaint with the IL Attorney General's consumer affairs office. Who needs an air conditioner during the Summer?

    Original review: Save yourself hours, weeks, and months of frustration and do not call AHS. This company is horrific. Customer Service is non-existent, as is competence. You will get the run-around and hear the same story over and over again as if they don't understand what you are saying when in reality they are just not responding to your problems because they don't care. They also lie, repeatedly. Our AC went out on 6/29. They finally sent someone on July 3rd. That person needed to order a part. It took until 7/16 to get that approved by AHS and ordered (no explanation for the delay). Then, I called them 7/18 and they had no update and could not get the AC people on the phone. I called the AC people myself, repeatedly, no one answered. I found on BBB that their license was revoked for this exact reason among others.

    I called AHS and asked if they could have another provider handle this issue (it's 105 outside for 3 days). They refused. Then I finally got ahold of the AC people. They told me that AHS gave them the wrong information regarding which part to order. It gets even better. AHS gave them a part for an older heater that they serviced 8 months ago!!!! And the worst is that AHS denies this and refuses to accept responsibility. My husband has asked AHS to send us a copy of the work order. We were not holding our breath for that but eventually it was sent, however, the line on the work order which stated what part was ordered was conveniently blacked out which tells us they know they ordered the wrong part. So now we have to wait an additional who knows how long for the correct part to come in and then for the AC to be fixed.

    It's been an additional 2 weeks and we have yet to receive a phone call from AHS and the part has apparently not come in. We call every day, literally, and are told the same story.. that they will call the contractor and call us back. This has literally never happened. So now we are just shy of a full month with no AC with kids and a dog in the house. We have purchased AC units but we are paying AHS so why aren't they doing their job. I have never worked with such incredible incompetence. It is truly mind-blowing. Save yourself. Do NOT use AHS. You WILL regret it. Unless you love calling the same people every day, multiple times per day while trying to do you real job, getting no answers, and living without your appliance for at least a month, save yourself! You are welcome in advance.

    Our A.C. stopped cooling and we reached out to AHS. They sent a technician that advised us to pay him $1250 for Freon or pay him $5500 for a new unit in the spot without reporting back to AHS. He also tampered with our other A.C. unit. The 2nd unit, only about 1 year old was working very well, now that is not cooling the same. We called AHS and reported the incident and requested to have a new technician come out. They informed us they need to wait on the technician’s report.

    It has been 4 days, without A.C., weather temperature has ranged anywhere from 85-95 degrees. Extremely hot and unbearable and no one is getting back to us. No explanation, no follow-up, We are at their mercy. We had a different warranty company prior and they were excellent. We never had an issue for about 14 years until we switched to AHS this year. Now bitterly regretting the switch.

    Every time we call AHS for some repair they can never repair the first time. It happened again today. AC went out on Tues, couldn’t get anyone out until late today. Then of course they had to order a part so who knows when we will have air. Last year it took us 3 weeks when it was in the high 90s. Yes I should have canceled my contract but I didn’t. I will sure do it after this time.

    My dishwasher wasn't working and this had been going on a while. After filing a claim with American Home Shield, someone was scheduled for the repair within the week. Two people came to look at the dishwasher separately and they both couldn't fix it. After I paid for the deductible twice, I told American Home Shield that I wanted somebody who actually knew what was going on. I wasn't gonna pay another deductible until they came out and diagnosed it. American Home Shield sent a third company out. The guy diagnosed it and he saw right away that the motherboard was no good. He ordered a new motherboard, came back three days later and fixed it.

    I'm a mechanic. A lot of times, we just have to guess like if we've seen a situation before. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A lot of times, you have to use your experience and that's kinda what the third guy did. The dishwasher was doing something that he had seen before where it was clicking and going crazy. He knew right away that was the motherboard. He was great. Overall, I was very satisfied although I had to pay three deductibles and I feel like American Home Shield owes me for two. But I like American Home Shield. They're pretty good and I don't usually have too much trouble with them.

    The contractors that American Home Shield has sent out have been fine, though when the air conditioning was done, the guy just checked outside and it was a relay switch. My air conditioner up in the attic should have been checked when I said the air conditioner wasn't working. The line was clogged so I had to pay another $125 for that to be fixed. The tech should have checked everything. Recently my microwave was beeping and Lake Area Appliance came, and my son was here when the tech originally put a new part in. When I went back to the house, the microwave was showing the same problem that the keyboard was out. I called American Home Shield again this morning and they said that I needed to pay again. I called Lake Appliances and they said that I needed to call AHS and tell them it’s a reorder, so I called AHS back, got somebody different and she put in a request.

    I was having plumbing and laundry dryer issues. For my dryer claim with AHS, I submitted it online and it was easy to do. Then it took a couple of days for the contractor from AAA Appliance Master to come out which was pretty quick. The guy was very nice and wonderful. He explained what was going on and got the job done quickly. The piece only cost a few dollars, but the deductible was over priced for a simple cheap fix that took literally five minutes to do.     I filed a claim over the phone to AHS for my air conditioning unit. The representative I spoke with was fine. They answered all the questions that I had. The contractor that they sent over was Epic Mechanical. He came in and he got the unit running. But in about three hours after he left, it stopped. And he told me that the unit was 23 years old and that Epic was more interested in replacing it with a new unit than repairing one. And after he went out the second time, I told him I didn’t want him back out to my house anymore because I knew that he didn’t have any interest in trying to fix my old unit.

    I was gonna go ahead and replace it with them, but the way he was talking, I knew that he didn’t have any interest in mind to even trying to fix that one. When I looked them up on the Better Business Bureau, he had a lot of complaints. And what they do is when they come out and repair people’s air conditioning, they will ask you to rate them by the time they finish the work. But when you rate them and the unit would be running for three hours after they leave, the unit goes out. I rated him right after he left my house. And I gave him a 5 because they come real fast. They were right on time with the schedule, but the work was just sorry. But I had already rated them. I asked the representative when I called back American Home Shield why do they keep on using them if they have a bad rating with the Better Business Bureau and they do shoddy work and she said, “because y’all are constantly giving them a good rating.”

    What I did was, I asked for another air conditioning company through American Home Shield. They sent me Cabot Mechanical. I had a friend that had just dealt with them and they were out to his house about five times before they got his unit corrected. So, I canceled that and I ended up buying a new unit. And then when I called American Home Shield back, ‘cause I thought maybe when I purchased a new unit, that they would allow me something toward the new unit. But the rep said that they wouldn’t because I didn’t go through their contractor in replacing the unit.

    I also had a problem with my refrigerator. I had a contractor to come out to fix my ice maker in my refrigerator. I dealt with that situation from February of this year, and they finally got it straightened out around July. Those were the only two bad experiences I’ve had since I’ve been with AHS. Everything else, I didn’t have a problem with. And I’ve been with AHS for a while now.

    I used to have American Home Shield a long time ago, then I went to Choice Home Warranty and they were crap. So, I went back to American Home Shield because even though it was more expensive as well as the service call, I hoped that I would get better service. I've only had one experience with them. I called them and I spoke with Mike, the rep, and he was nice, respectful and very helpful. The first contractor took just a couple of days to come out for the AC and he took care of everything. The second one with Crown Electric was a couple of days after that. He came out for the ceiling fan. Now, the lights work but the fans don’t. I called the contractor back and I was told that they were waiting on AHS. They said they have to replace the fans. So, they took pictures of the fans.

    The fan in our bedroom is very ornate. There are stone and metal things on it. It has a drop pole and then, it has a light that you can turn on high or you can dim it. It also has a remote control. The fan is wood and very intricate and then, at the bottom, to get to the insides of it, there is a pineapple. I don’t see them replacing this. It should be a Hampton Bay and it should have a remote control because the two in the den are the same way. They're brushed nickel with black blades, and they were purchased for a reason. So, I'm not gonna have some 89.99 special coming into my house.

    I called the contractors back and followed up on it because it has been 14 days since they have been here. The lady said they were waiting on AHS. I informed her that when I was talking to Mike, he said that the man was going to take the ceiling fans down, send them in, and then American Home Shield will replace them and send in the new ones, but they would come from the warehouse in Ohio. That doesn't make any sense and it didn't make any sense to Crown Electric as well because they've dealt with AHS and they just replaced the fans themselves. My ceiling fans are still hanging on my ceiling and I’m looking at a dead ceiling fan.

    I’m satisfied with AHS but questionable. They had the technicians out in a very timely manner but responding to the technicians and resolving the issue has been much longer than it should be. They even told me when I called Crown Electric that I could go and pick my own fans and opt-out to buy my own fan. These fans were bought at Tri-Supply and they're not gonna have the same model and the same look. It doesn't make sense to me to buy a whole new fan when you can just replace the fan motor. I wouldn't stay in business doing crap like that.

    I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. My recent experience with them was excellent. This is a rental property that I have American Home Shield on, and they tried to get a vendor for me, but everybody was booked. It was a situation where the tenant’s refrigerator had gone out, and the refrigerator was filled with food in the freezer so I really needed someone to get out there quickly to resolve the issue. I spoke with a representative that was very patient and very professional. She’s the one that called multiple vendors to try to see if she could find one to fit me in. She was just fantastic.

    They called Rocket Repair and they were also booked. But they heard about the situation and they fitted me in.     I enjoyed Dan’s Pro-Lock Los Angeles. We had him and his associates and it took them a while to get the keys completely changed over because the locks were sticking. He was really capable and kept trying until he got it perfect. He was great. However, we were very dissatisfied with the Unified Contractors who did our pool pump. The guy who came out was unprepared, unprofessional, and had no tools with him. He was on my property for two minutes. He came out and looked, and that was it.

    I called American Home Shield back and let them know what happened then I filed a claim about having them look back into the pool pump because it was older. It failed two days after we moved in so it failed three days after the warranty was effective. AHS said that they couldn’t replace it because it was too old. The only way that it could be repaired is if I paid the contract company $875 for them to fill in the gaps between the pump and repairing the plumbing that was attached. I was not quite happy with the result and then I waited 20 minutes to speak with a supervisor that was able to give me any type of answer.

    The contractors that were sent by American Home Shield for our disposal in our sink that was leaking were fantastic. I did the claim online. Once I got logged in, I just hit the button that says, “request service.” And then I was able to use their menus to drill down to say exactly what the problem was. I could do drop down menus that got down to let me say my disposal was leaking. The contractors replaced the disposal with a brand new one and it took them an hour or less.

    I’ve used American Home Shield in the past and they’ve been really good, too. But there was one time five months ago where my air conditioning broke. I have American Home Shield, and I thought they were gonna cover because they advertise that they cover the air conditioning, heating, and all this stuff. But if you read the fine print when they describe what they cover as it relates to your air conditioning, they really don’t cover very much. And I ended up having to come out-of-pocket quite a bit. My total repair bill for my air conditioner that time was like $1,700. And American Home Shield covered like $200.

    When I went back and read carefully on the website, it said that they don’t cover everything on the air conditioning. So, they didn’t break the law. I would recommend American Home Shield. But I would tell others, “You gotta read the fine print as it relates to your big appliances, like your heater and your air conditioning system.” American Home Shield is not gonna fix an $8,000 air conditioning system just because you’re giving them 50 bucks a month. Still, American Home Shield is a good company.

    When I called American Home Shield, the rep that I spoke to was in the Philippines. But the reps there barely spoke English, and they were reading off of a script. You have to beg them to put a supervisor on there, and they don’t wanna put a supervisor on because they're concerned they're gonna get reviewed for that. They kept saying that no one else can help me but them. But I told the rep that I wanted to speak to a supervisor. It took about an hour of completely requesting over and over again, saying the same thing over and over again. And then I finally got a customer advocate who told me all these wonderful things they were gonna do and then they don’t do any of them.

    On the second time that I called in, I finally got someone in the US office, and she had an attitude, saying, “Okay, is that it?” I told her no and that I needed a supervisor because she was not capable of handling what I needed. But she told me that there wasn't one available. I then asked her the name of the supervisor on duty. She told me to hold on, and then put on hold for over an hour. They put me on hold, and then come back and forth, saying that the supervisor was not available. And that she would have to call me back. I got the supervisor's name, but when I asked for her extension number, the rep told me that there was no extension where I can call her back. I also asked them for a phone number for their executive office but they told me they don’t have that phone number.

    I've had to call into a supervisor for over a week and I've never had a return call. Amanda is the rep that was supposed to call me back. My service still has not been completed. I had been charged for a service by a vendor that never even made the repair. They came out and lied and left, and then wouldn’t return. And they charged my card for that. American Home Shield sent out another vendor and it looked like that was all gonna work out. But it didn’t. They showed up with the wrong faucet and told me to call them to reschedule when I get my own faucet. It's been a nightmare. I was supposed to get refunded but I never got it. I get notes saying that my account is past due because I didn’t pay the fee.

    When I had the AC guy come in, he told me that I was 3 1/2 units short. So I asked him if that meant the AC had a leak? But he told me that they don't worry about it unless it's five or more, so he just put this substance in there that plugs it. But that substance burns up your compressor. So the AC guy would love to put that substance in there so he can come back and sell me a new compressor, which American Home Shield doesn’t pay for, and then they only pay for a certain amount of Freon.

    Since I was so dissatisfied with the service, even though I paid for it, I called my own AC person and asked him to double-check my AC and shed light to my poor compressor because the previous AC guy already put this puke in there. They came and I was still short on Freon. So, the previous AC guy didn’t even put all the Freon in there. And that was within three days of him being there. But that was not the worst experience. The plumbing claim was the worst experience.

    I was a returning customer. I was giving American Home Shield another chance, but I really wanna cancel my membership. I don’t want to pay to be tortured. No repairs are bad enough, but when I pay American Home Shield to be tortured, that’s really crap. I know 10 people that have nothing but horrible things to say about American Home Shield, and I've been forewarned and forewarned and forewarned. It's horrible. American Home Shield is the absolute worst home warranty company that I have ever dealt with, and would not wish this experience on anyone.

    We had to file a claim with American Home Shield almost immediately after we closed on our house. We closed on Thursday morning and sometime before that weekend, we realized that the air unit had stopped working. We had to dig a little bit to figure things out because we still had all the paperwork in the envelope where we closed. I had to find the warranty company information and figure out who to call and work out the details of it. I found the packet of information and called American Home Shield. Customer service seemed great and there were no issues. The person on the phone told me they would have a contractor contact me that day which they did. But the contractor scheduled the time to come and that schedule worked for me.

    Myers Comfort Specialists of Birmingham was our contractor. I submitted the claim on Friday and a technician came on Tuesday. We had not yet started living in the house nor had we started the move-in process. Before we were ready to move into the house, the technician named Lloyd had repaired the air unit. He was amazing and we love him. He was really friendly. I got an email at first telling me when he was coming. He called me on my phone a couple of times ahead of time. My wife and kids had to go to the house because we weren’t living there yet. Lloyd was quite friendly to the kids. I would definitely recommend him again. It was a good and painless experience.

    My air conditioning had blown fuse due to a power outage with the electric company. I went online to American Home Shield’s website to send a request. They have a little link to request a service. It's very user-friendly and what they do is the contractor will call you after you place your request to schedule a date.     The air conditioner of my home went out. I went online and put out a claim. It was 24 hours when we got notified by the air conditioning people that they were on it and they'd be out here. Then they came in and did the repairs. They were very professional. I called a couple of my friends who were AC people and told them they'd better tighten up. They explained the bill to me, what my end was gonna be and the services that they were gonna do. It was a great experience overall.

    My hot water heater went out so I called American Home Shield and it took a couple of days for this guy to come out. He was real nice, but he said he couldn't do it by himself, so he had to get it scheduled for two guys, and so, I was without hot water for eight days which was a little disappointing. I had to go over to my niece’s house to shower. I also didn't run my dishwasher and I couldn't do any clothes that need warm water but I lived through it. Then, they came and got it in just fine. I had my water heater wrapped in insulation because my garage gets cold and I wanna make sure that my water stays good and protected. The only thing they did that I didn't like is they put that insulation in the recycle so I had to dig it out on the trash. It’s not recycle. Other than that, they did a good job and I’ve got hot water. It was a good experience.

    We've been very happy with some of the earlier things that American Shield has done. Some of them that have happened was we have a very expensive stove and cooker, and the contractor from American Home Shield came in and fixed that. That probably saved us a lot of money. We're in South Florida and we've had somebody come in and fix the main air conditioner twice, and once, in a pretty major way.

    But the last time, we were not that happy. Their claims process was poor. There were three different people that came in. There were two air conditioning people then a plumber but none of them could do anything about the air conditioner. There is clunking noise that keeps people awake when they sleep in that room, and it's right behind the air conditioner. The first guy came in, said it was not the air conditioner that caused this and wrote a report saying it was cosmetic or some kind of language that skirts the responsibility of having to fix it.

    So I called back and we had a second opinion. I kinda got a little bit of back and forth with the person I was talking to because there's a policy that if a second person comes in and they find out the same issue, I get charged another 75 bucks. The second person came in and did not find that it was another issue. He said it was a different issue but said that it wasn't something related to the air conditioner itself so he couldn't help us. He did acknowledge that there was something wrong coming out of the wall. And bottom line, he reported it that way. I had to make several phone calls.

    Eventually, we had a plumber come in. The plumber said he couldn't do anything about it either. The air conditioner is still making a noise and nothing has been done. I'm making a decision now to just pay for it all myself. This one experience was very bad. I get it that American Home Shield can't cover every single tiny thing. Otherwise, they'll go bankrupt. But I don't like the insurance on this last one 'cause I wasted a lot of time in going back and forth. I could have had somebody come in and fix it to begin with.
