I called American Home Shield and told them I had an air conditioning problem. They told me somebody would be contacting me within 24 hours, but it happened over a weekend. I called them on a Friday, so the contractors called me first thing Monday morning and they came out Monday afternoon. The contractor was great, friendly, personable and he knew what he was doing. He knew exactly what it was. I've used AHS several times for different things and they've always been excellent.

I love American Home Shield. I've had them for so long and I always recommend them when people talk about their homes. Unfortunately, things break down, but I feel I've gotten new stuff, and I'm happy with it. Submitting claims is easy as well. I had one for a plumbing issue and everything was fine. My daughter is staying in the house and she said it took the guy from C Mayes Plumbing less than 10 minutes. He said, "Just be mindful of the toilet paper that the kids are using."

The fan on our AC caught the wires and it blew out a capacitor. At first, American Home Shield wanted to send out somebody else. The last time they tried to send that company out, they were talking about coming out two or three days later. And hot as it was, I couldn't wait two or three days later. So AHS sent out Comfort Systems. I did the claim early that morning and they came out about five or six hours later and took care of the problem. The rep handled the problem pretty quick and pretty easily and they got somebody here that quick.

American Home Shield is good to get because sometimes there are things that you can't do to your home that you're gonna have to hire somebody to do. And some of the stuff is really expensive. But if you got more than one problem, AHS should let you go ahead and get both problems taken care of with one phone call and one deductible instead of having two deductibles.

It was very frustrating to get someone out here to take care of the issues. I was on the line for over an hour when I called American Home Shield. Then I went ahead and tried to submit my order but the people taking the orders couldn't get the order together. The people did not speak English properly and I couldn't understand what they were saying. I had to call them back three times to make sure and they still couldn't get it right. They told me that somebody would be calling me from the plumbing and they gave me a number. But I was so frustrated with them. Evidently, they didn't know what they were doing.

AHS still didn't submit the order properly to the person that came from the plumbing services. He still had to call back. The young man that came out was very kind. A piece was up inside the toilet and he pushed that back down. Then he went ahead and put a new piece inside the handle inside the bathtub. There was also a leak under the kitchen sink and he went underneath and did some work on it. Everything's fine. This was my third time using this service from AHS and it was horrible. AHS needs to get proper help and train their people to speak and to take the order properly.

The washing machine overflowed so I had Service Plus come out and check. Some kind of tube thing that turns it from small load to large load came off of that so it overflowed. So the tech hooked up the tube right back behind the washing machine. AHS has been pretty good since 2012. The only problem that I had with them was when my refrigerator was broken, it took three times for them to fix it. Then when the people found out they couldn't be fixed, I called AHS and the lady had told me to look for a refrigerator. But when I called them back, they told me they could have just ordered the refrigerator themselves because the unit that I was looking at was $200 more in the store. They could have saved me a whole bunch of gas if they told me that they could order it.

Express Appliance was good and very professional. After the parts came, they gave me the next available appointment. It was a Saturday and turned out to be convenient. Since they fixed the appliance, we haven't had any issues. Also, they brought whatever was necessary to take precautions due to the pandemic. The service with American Home Shield has been good so far but sometimes, I wish they would replace appliances rather than repair them.

The dishwasher took four trips and several hours for the technician. They might as well have just replaced the dishwasher for the amount of time and effort it took. They’re spending more on technicians coming out and trying to fix a problem that involves more labor and parts than just giving a new one. Otherwise, everything’s okay. Some cases such as the microwave was a simple fix so it didn't qualify. I’ve been with AHS for many years. I wouldn't have them and wouldn't renew the contract if it weren't beneficial.

He tested it, and he left. He had the part in hand, so it was very efficient. The only thing is because of the weather,it took three weeks for him to show up. But they did tell us that it is going to take long because of the long backlogs. We had a heatwave at that time.

Dimitri came out for the microwave and he was really good. He was very knowledgeable and very efficient and clean. So I was very impressed. The microwave is working fine. He wore his mask when he was here and we stayed distant. I had to help him get the microwave out. But other than that, he protected himself perfectly. He was a real gentleman. Even their office help was super because they called me and set up the appointment. They called me when Dimitri was gonna come. I asked for a 30 minute phone call and I got it. It was all unexpected. American Home Shield's service has been great. Rick has been our account rep for years and we still use him. It's been working out really well. Having Rick in their program is killing First American and Fidelity.

The process of submitting claims with Home Shield is very easy. The first time I put a claim in, I was putting it in for the water softener and the automated system kept thinking I was saying sump pump. There was no easy way to talk to a human being at the time I was trying to enter that claim. And when I realized that it had put in an order and ordered a company to come out and repair my sump pump the next day, I had to contact the guy and tell him it was a water softener. Then, they explained to me that water softeners aren't covered. The automated system is only so good. It doesn't tell you what you're saying is not valid and it just picks out something similar. But other than that, it was very straightforward.

Then I had an AC claim. A condensate line on the air conditioning unit broke. The unit is in the attic and water had been dripping down into the wall. Unfortunately, the repair of the condensate line was the most minor part of the whole situation and that's all American Home Shield covered. I paid the guy from Loyal Home Services $75 but the rest of the job, including the clean up, was not covered so I got a lot more expense involved. My yearly contract is about to expire and I probably won't renew because they're limited in what they cover. Also, it was something the sellers of the house paid for when I bought it so it was no charge to me and for me to renew it is a bit too expensive.

One of the burner in my cooking range was not working. The technician from Sears came out and in the initial investigation, he reported there were some parts that were not working. He first ordered the replacement coil. Then when he changed that, some PCB or something was not working. He had to come back again for that. I had concerns about it because we were getting the replacement done during the COVID time. He was very cautious about that like he was wearing his mask all the time and trying to maintain distance. He was good and I was pretty satisfied with him. We have used AHS two times and usually the claims have been pretty effortless.

Our recent claim experience with AHS was fine. The gentleman was very pleasant. We were about to have a storm. But he came out anyway and rushed out and took care of it, in spite of the fact that he knew the storm was on its way. He had a mask on the whole time. That one experience was fine. I have multiple policies with American Home Shield. With my home that I live in, I had to have a furnace. American Home Shield only paid $500. I had to pay all the rest of the furnace that needed to be replaced. I've had American Home Shield for a very long time. I'm not like a new policyholder of American Home Shield.

Then I had a dryer that went out and they never sent me the information for me to get my reimbursement because I had to buy a new one. I called in two times. But they never even emailed me the information, so that I could mail a copy of the receipt in. As a whole, I don't know if I would necessarily recommend them. They could definitely improve on their communication with their clients. As far as the people who come out to do my service, I have had no problems at all.

My wife calls in claims with American Home Shield and the wait is a bit longer now because of this COVID situation. Everybody's remote and calls are stacking up. Things now take a bit longer to either get answered or resolved. Before all this, things were a bit faster. People were in the shop and they would answer and the whole staff crew is available. Other than that, we have no issues.

They're responsive and they've addressed the issue on most times. There are times where I have had to convince them because the contractors sometimes tend to do things much faster and don't investigate. There was one situation where we ran into a very bad contractor who serviced the AC. Without even coming into the house, the tech said I was low on Freon so he pumped Freon and then said it's $500, without even consulting us. It took me quite a few phone calls to get a second contractor out. The second contractor that came out looked at the air handler in the house and said he sees the leak. He plugged it up, pumped it, and everything has been fine ever since then. Eventually, AHS came around and rectified the issue, it just took a bit longer. I'm hoping those are just anomalies.

We've had AHS for 20 years now and they stand behind what they advertise. If they are unable to fix something, they would make the decision to replace the equipment at an equal cost if it's available. I'm very happy with that. There has never been a case where it was denied. There's a second home I have and nobody is in it but I still have them on it because of the peace of mind. It costs me 60 bucks a month for it but if something major goes down, that's when it pays off.

R K Plumbing was wonderful. They came out for the hot water heater. The owner said it was working fine. It was only a year and a half old model. The inspector couldn’t light it since he wasn't allowed, and the gas man said it wouldn’t light. So the problem was the part. I had no hot water. So, it came out and we had to replace the controller on the front of it. Then it worked. I did the claim to American Home Shield online. The claim process was quick and easy. The techs were on time and they wore masks. They needed a part, so they left and came back promptly. They got the part the same day, so that was nice.

All American Plumbing & Rooter was excellent. They replaced our faucets because there was no water pressure. For those situations, a week or two weeks would been fine but they responded really quickly. The first time they came out, they fixed three of the four faucets. They said they had to replace one and it took probably two or three weeks before they got the part. Then they came out once they got the part. It was very timely considering what the issue was. The water pressure is excellent, like it is supposed to be in a normal home instead of the trickle effect which I lived with for about a year. I thought it was just the water pressure to the house and come to find out, it was just the faucets. For the time I've been with American Home Shield, I'm fully satisfied. They've lived up to my expectations and it's easy. I haven't had any issues. That was my first call. There was something wrong with the compressor and a burned-out wire and they replaced those. Then there was some moisture buildup 'cause it was working more efficiently afterwards. There was also a clogged drain. They came out and did a follow-up, unclogged the drain, and it's been working perfectly ever since. He had it done within just a few minutes. He solved the problem and I have not had a problem since. He had all of his PPE on. I was doing a Zoom call for work when he was doing it. He was very respectful during that time frame.

American Home Shield could improve on their accessibility. When you call in, it automatically debits your card, which is fine. But if you need to cancel it, it's almost a pain to call to get it canceled just getting ahold of somebody. I feel like everything is so automated. They could provide more personal communication. It put whatever in it out and we had to flush the toilet three or four times before it would finally flush. I called American Home Shield and stated what the problem was and opened up a claim. They assigned All Phase Plumbing. Randy came out, looked at the toilet and attempted to fix it. He was saying the same thing that we had to flush it multiple times before it would flush.

He flushed it a number of times. He started with the valve thing and worked on that. He got it to where it would flush and thought it was fixed. But when he kept trying, the problem was still occurring. In the end, the toilet was replaced. But the toilet that was sent was a cheap one and I'm not pleased with that. American Home Shield should replace the item with the quality of the item that they took out. Otherwise, it's a working toilet. Also, Randy is great. I've had American Home Shield for years and they've been fine. Sometimes, it's a little confusing knowing what's covered and what's not. That would be my complaint about them. It seems like there are a lot of stipulations over things. It would be nice if there were other options. Sometimes, you're in a position where you're paying the service fee, somebody's coming out, but then the repair isn't covered. It's this huge amount of money. I wish there was a secondary coverage or some other stipulations. But it seems like in general with home warranty companies, their goal is to obviously not pay, to have things repaired.

Then the technician determined that we ended up needing a new heater and so he handled the processing element of that. Then, once the heater came in, they came in and did the installation. He was timely, always notified me when he was coming. They took care of it. It did have a small leak on it. He turned around and he said, "Okay. I'm gonna leave it for a day." He came back at his prescribed time and he fixed the issue then. So it was over a two-day period that he did the installation, and he took care of what didn't quite seal up, where it was doing that. Because we're under COVID, he acted properly. He didn't do anything that would make me feel uncomfortable.

I had an air conditioner that I called in on late Saturday night. In each case that I have had a service person that American Home Shield is sent out, those individuals have called. I called American Home Shield for the first time since there was something with our toilet. This was the first time I called and I was not happy that there was a recordinga and I was on hold when I wanted to speak with someone. I ended up just using the automated system and that was easy. I was given the name of the company that would be coming as well as their telephone number. It was AJ Plumbing. I was told to contact the company which I did. They were excellent. They replaced the ring in the toilet. I couldn't flush the toilet before but now, I can. So far, so good.

A dryer would not turn and when I submitted a claim with AHS, they told me they would give the contractor a call then the contractor would be in touch with me. It was pretty quick and as soon as they told me that, I got a call from the contractors. Then, the techs came out, looked at it, and said that they got to order some parts. They ended up coming over again on Tuesday and put the parts in. It took about 45 minutes and they had the dryer running. Since the repair, everything is working great and in order. But I had to call them to remind them about the Tuesday appointment. I would have wanted a little bit more communication, but at the end of the day, they still came out and resolved the problem.

The guy came with the parts and changed the door lock. He was excellent and knew what he was doing. The other one that I filed a claim for was the toilet. It was not flushing. They said the jet was not included in my coverage so I asked another company to do it.

We travel a lot and we fly to Mexico. Now, we cruise. A few years ago, I had some leaky faucets that wouldn't stop dripping the day before I was to leave the country. I called American Home Shield and they had a repair person out that same day. If it had been during the Coronavirus, I'd probably had to shut the water off. This time, the repair company couldn't fix my icebox freezer and there was a lot of delayed time in between American Home Shield and the repair people and me. I've also kept calling the repair people, "What's gonna happen? Are they contacting?" The guy said, "We got 30-something customers and they've never contacted us on any of them, on updates on what to do." Finally, American Home Shield contacted them after me getting involved.

I went four weeks trying to communicate with them, but I finally got a thing from them and they told me I was gonna get a check. I bought a new icebox freezer, sent them the receipt and got my check yesterday. It all worked out good. Overall, I've been with American Home Shield for 18 years and they've been good to me over the years. This is the only time and I'm gonna excuse everything based on the Coronavirus. I'm a veteran, so even the VA's setting down a few things. I know everybody's suffering and I understand and I love American Home Shield.

Allcity Appliance & HVAC was very good on site. They worked on the pump that was going on the washing machine. They were quick, clean and we're very happy. All worked perfectly fine. As far as the process, they have to diagnose the issue, then get approval for whatever the fix is before they come in, order the part and get the ship squared. So, that does take some time.

I wish American Home Shield's service was a little faster. But at the end of the day, the checks and balances they have to go through to make sure that they're not getting screwed over is something we're willing to go along with for what we know is the service. They've been very beneficial for us. We've had a couple of things go. The house is a little bit older. So any of the appliances that we didn't replace when we purchased, they are coming towards the time frame where they start to have problems. We definitely feel like we've gotten value out of the service.

It's our first home and I know how things operate. The minute you get something, it seems like it wants to tear up, which made me decide to get a home warranty. I must have gotten the service with American Home Shield not long after we closed on our house. It may be June was when the coverage started. When I placed the work order for the plumbing issue, the rep said that someone would be able to come the next day. And then, the person I spoke with told me that I may be able to call back again to see since the contractor couldn't come at that moment and they didn't have anyone in their network. I could maybe get someone that I could pay out of pocket and get reimbursed. She said that she may be able to call and see about getting $100 service fee waived because they couldn't find someone to come out. Then, when I called to inquire about that, the representative told me that they had no knowledge of that even being an option.

McDonald Plumbing came out and provided decent service. The toilet issue has been resolved and they replaced the faucet in the main bathroom. I’m not sure if it was on the work order, but I had something in there about a leak in my bathroom as well, in terms of the sink leaking water periodically. When they came, I was with the whole homeschooling thing, so I wasn't able to pay close attention to everything that they addressed in the bathroom. I'm thinking I did have that on the service order and maybe they didn't refer to it before they left to make sure everything was done because they didn’t have anything done to the faucet in the bathroom. They did fix the tub faucet.

But there wasn't anything wrong with it. It's a normal noise when it shuts down. It is loud. But all is well. It's working great. Service One Air was on time, very thorough, and explained what the noise was. They had masks on, their feet covered and they kept their distance even with the masks on. Everything went great. I would use them again. However, I don't understand why I have to pay a monthly fee, and then I also have to pay when I call them to let them know I'm having a problem. I just feel like it's a lot of money to pay for them to come out when I'm paying such a high monthly fee too. I pay $57 a month, and then I have to pay 70-something when they come out, so I limit my cost to them. But that's just the way they do and I'm sure all companies do that.

I sat on hold for about 45 minutes. The person who finally answered my call told me that they were no longer at contract, and that they would submit it and try and find a new contract. That was about a week and a half ago. I looked on the account on the website, and they put the same contractor back on, and no one has contacted me. On that performance, I give a big fat zero. I logged in and did a service request and then it automatically told me the contractor that was assigned. I do like that feature that tells me within seconds who's being assigned to the service request. American Home Shield's contractors are good. The one thing that I don't like is I put in a service request from my home in Alexandria, Virginia for the water heater. Unfortunately, the plumber had a death in the family so he had to delay his initial service call because of the funeral. But when he did go, he needed a part, so then he needed to then submit it to American Home Shield for approval.

I have tenants there. It was a gasket that they needed to order. I haven't even texted my tenant. I'm afraid to text her to ask if it did get resolved. Since I manage that home, I have my tenant and the contractor work. The contractor is good. I just don't like how long it takes sometimes to get the authorization. Something was leaking with the water heater so they were having to do something daily.

My renter from Virginia last week said, “I hate to bother you, but can you call American Home Shield to find out what's going on?” It took about an hour to get someone on the phone. I'm cognizant of accents, but this person, I couldn't understand her enough. Their voice message said to send a text. So I texted the contractor, but I didn't hear back. On the same time, I was on the phone on hold with American Home Shield. Then when I did get somebody, it seemed like they were scripted. Other than that, my niece is buying a home. She closes on September 17th, so I told her to get a home warranty. I recommended them to American Home Shield.

This was the first time I've needed to file a claim. I got this home warranty because last year, I had a lightning strike near my house and it fried some of my control boards in my appliances. I thought that would have been really bad if I would have had to replace several appliances all at one time. I thought the process was easy. I could go online and say I need service.

When my refrigerator wasn't cold and neither was my freezer, I filed that on a Tuesday afternoon and the guy from Sears was there Friday morning. He put on a mask. He took out the part and showed it to me. It was clearly black and fried from electricity. He had the part on his truck that he could fix it and put it on and immediately the refrigerator got cold. It was fine ‘cause it was my refrigerator and I had someplace else I could put all my stuff. If my air conditioner went out in July, that would not have been a good thing. Nonetheless, I thought the timeliness was completely acceptable. I like American Home Shield very much.

There is no way to communicate if you have any issue beyond what is available in their website. You have to call them every time with 30-55 mins of waiting for each call and then no communication back from them on what is next step. They will tell you what is needed right now and once you are done with it, there is another step after that and then another after. Why can't they share all the activities in one go or talk about it in the call.

I am using AHS for last 5 months and called them for 4-5 times and paid each time for different services. But for 1 that was my first issue, as their contract could not solve it, I have to opt for cash out (as they were charging 5K to repair). Now instead of paying 1K as per their contract which AHS should pay for that type of work, they are going with $725 and for that I shared all the invoice and now there is another request coming from their side to share certificate of repair work. If invoice is there then either it is not required, or if required, this should have been communicated when cash out option was discussed. Unnecessary they are delaying the payment with one thing or another.

    Reviewed Sept. 3, 2020

On 9 August 2020, I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) to place a service request for my heat pumps as I believed they were not operating properly. A contract company was dispatched for a service call on 14 August 2020 to assess the situation. The contractor discovered that the condensing coil unit in the 3-Ton blower unit was rusted over, the drainage pan was full of water and rust, and the float valve was not shutting the system down as designed. All of these parts are internal to the system and not associated with expected routine maintenance. Additionally, the overflow drainage pan showed signs of usage, which is considered bad due and a sign that the main drainage pan was failing to properly drain. However, this could only be seen from behind the unit at the drainage pipe connection.

Finally, the contractor looked at the exterior drain and identified that the discoloration on our roof was from rust originating from the condenser coil. We had incorrectly assumed that it was pollen or alga being caught and produced by the drainage water. Essentially, the condenser unit and associated parts needed to be replaced immediately and anytime waiting places greater risk on damage to the attic floor and roofing. The contractor submitted their findings to AHS.

On 18 August 2020 just after 6 PM, AHS send us an email to inform us that a decision had been reached and that we needed to call. We called and the service representative refused to tell us anything without the contractor on the line and the call ended without any information. We decided to try again with a different service representative and had much better luck. The new service representative informed us that our claim had been denied on two points. First 8 pounds of replacement freon (needed to charge the new condenser) and second the float switch. Though we did not agree with the freon, we didn't argue that denial. However, we attempted to argue the float switch as the referenced portion of our contract discusses missing or modified parts. The float switch is neither missing nor modified.

To attempt to better understand the denial and its effect on our claim, we requested the denial be e-mailed to us. The service representative told us that she could not do that. Odd, as AHS e-mails us all the time. Instead the service representative suggested mailing the denial through the USPS. Being that issue is urgent and needs attention now, not a week or two from now, we requested to speak to a senior representative or supervisor. The current service representative informed us that she would e-mail him our info and he would contact us.

On 19 August 2020, I again contacted AHS as we had not heard from the supervisor. This time the service representative added two more denials from the last we spoke with on this matter. The new denied items included locking clamps and some unknown modification that they could not detail for me. The total cost for the denials was approximately $1200. I again asked to speak to a senior representative or manager. This current representative initially refused my request. We argued the point for about five minutes again until she e-mailed someone she referred to as her supervisor.

We have not heard from a senior representative or manager and the issue has not been resolved. Any number you call associated with AHS or Frontdoor Inc (the company that owns AHS) results in the same telephone system answering that does not allow you to elevate your claim. When we started using AHS 12 year ago, they could be challenging at times but ultimately were able to get to a mutual resolution, but now their customer service is terrible and they seem to work very hard at not paying out on their customers claims. It has been almost 4 weeks and still no call from AHS. I'm sorry to say, but it seems that AHS has become a fraudulent insurance company.

My pest control person went in my basement and showed me where there was water in the pan for that unit. I called Home Shield, put in a claim, and the gentleman from A, R, & C Specialists came out. He checked the water and said the system was running, but it was clogged up. He went on and serviced that. He told me that the water would evaporate. The water still hasn't evaporated, but the system is running. He serviced us well by finding what the problem was. And in doing that, I thought it was odd that he poured the dirty water that was in the pan back into the low pump section. I was concerned about that, but he service the unit and did that. We were pretty pleased with what he did.

The other day when I had to call last Saturday night for a different unit, a unit for the main level, the issue became that I could not tell the system that it was not a repeat for the service that was performed on the 28th instead. I had to call, and thenit became difficult because it took a while to get to a person in order to speak with someone, to have them to go into the system, and put in that it was a new unit. So, it should be maybe their system could be redesigned on their claim where you request the service to say, "Is this a callback on a prior service or is this a different unit?" That would have helped because I could have said, "Okay, no, that's not the unit. That's the guy who came on the 28th of August for, but this is a different unit."

And then, when I spoke with the representative, in order for her to put that in and change it, I had to give them my credit card. I could see all my files that my credit card is on file because it pays my contract every month on that same credit card. Also, it appears that maybe Home Shield uses an overseas telephone service. Then I had to give the young lady my credit card, and that concerned me. Other than that, I like the idea that they are very quick with assigning a service provider, that that service provider is, for the most part, outside of this holiday when I had to wait until Tuesday. I'm glad that my air unit was still working because it would have been from Saturday to Tuesday or Wednesday for someone to come out, if it was actually hot. That concerned me because of the Monday holiday. Overall, Home Shield's service has been pretty good.

I could just do the claim online and that works out great. It was so convenient. The technician was there within the same week so they met our expectations, especially the service. When the contractor came out, it was very professional and safe, as far as COVID. Everything is functioning at 100% and everything's good. The experience with American Home Shield was great as far as the contractors that were chosen to come out to the home. They were very competent in their job and everything was done one time. We were having lights that were dimming for no reason at all. A very nice man came out and serviced us. He knew his business and knew right where to go to find the issue. He solved the light situation and he really knew what he needed to do as far as getting things fixed quickly. He discovered that the wrong type of lights were put in to go along with the switches. The switches were old and they had new lights in it. They weren't compatible so that was causing the problem. He switched out the switches for us and it's been perfect ever since. Filing the claim was also fairly easy. I had to sit on the phone a long time before I got to somebody but outside of that, once I got to somebody, it was very good. American Home Shield has been very nice. They've improved their customer service. I had had them many years ago with another house and that wasn't so pleasant.

My experience with my recent claim with AHS regarding the AC unit was good. My house has two systems so they struggled finding one of the issues but they kept coming out here. At first, they told me it was a coil leak on both systems, so they changed both coils. One system was good after that, but they found another leak. They said it was another leak that they have missed and they found, so they had to recharge the system. They came out six times for that unit, because they kept having issues finding it. They were always good. The AC would work when they leave, but then it would act up. At nighttime, it would go out again, so I called them again and they’d come back. They got it covered. They fixed it finally.

For the first time, I didn't know I could submit the claim online. But they told me and then the second time, I had to call because when it acted up again after the repair they did, I called them ‘cause I didn’t know if I should do a new service and they're gonna charge me, so I decided to call to see what they’d say about it. They said it's a recall. The service of AHS was good. It’s my first time with them. However, I feel like the call is somebody else and they use people that pick up the phone from other countries. It’s a little rough to understand them or them to understand me. Other than that, the service was good. It’s worth paying for it.

The microwave was not rotating and there was a piece on the refrigerator that came off which held the bottom of the handle on. Also, the dryer had stopped working. The heating element had burned out. Submitting the claim was pretty seamless and pretty easy. I put it in and there was a little confusion on the website on my part, but once I figured out what it was, I had to cancel the claim I'd put in because I didn't know to put the right items in the first time. I got a really quick response back from McCain Appliance.

The tech scheduled the service and he came out. He figured out what was going on as far as the required items to remedy the problem with the dryer, refrigerator and the microwave. He was pretty knowledgeable about what was required to fix them. He ordered the parts, and as soon as they came in, he had them fixed fairly quickly. So, it was a good experience. He was very professional. The interaction was really good as far as explaining what was going on. I would definitely do business with him again.

Everything's been functioning great. When he did fix the microwave, he had to take the bottom off of it to get to the motor. He thought it was originally the motor but it wasn't. It turned out to be there's a small little three-piece thing that hooks into the motor that spins the plate on the bottom. When he took it down, the inside of the bottom microwave where the grease fan element is was fairly dirty. But it wasn't until later that I looked at it because I was gonna put a screen in there, that the wires to the lighting element are burnt. I don't think he noticed this because he wasn’t looking for it. It looks like the microwave has either been subject to a fire from the stove or has shorted out because they're burnt and the whole underside of the microwave is burnt. This is the only thing that bothers me. I'm very happy with the fact that we bought the warranty from American Home Shield. I'm very happy with the service so far.

I contacted American Home Shield to come and fix my AC unit. The duct was leaking. They sent the contractor out. He came in and said it was leaking because I needed $1,000 worth of stuff installed in my house. My house is brand new like four years old. I told him that it's been fine all these years. All the other houses are the same. I just got a leaking duct and needed a sealing up. I diagnosed it and I could have done it. But because I pay American Home Shield every month, I wanted them to come out. I told him to seal it up and he said he couldn't do that. He just came to diagnose. It cost me 100 bucks. I could have paid any other contractor a 100 bucks to come and seal it. Then he said he won't fix it because there's something else that's causing that issue. But there's not.

The first claim I had was that our dishwasher broke about four weeks ago and it was absolutely fantastic, from start to finish. The guy came out the next day and he had spare parts on his truck. He was in here for an hour, he fixed it, and walked away. I could not be happier with the service that's why I contacted them with the AC. I thought I'm gonna get great service. But the guy that turned up had no intention of fixing anything. He had the stuff on his truck but he won't fix it.

I complained to American Shield and they said they would send another contractor out. But if the second one says the same thing, they're gonna charge me another $100. I told them to forget it. If they're gonna charge me again, I'm gonna pay someone else just to come and do it. I'm the customer. I wanted it sealed in and the contractor should have done that. Now, if it leaked again, that's on me, isn't it? But I paid for the service and I didn't receive it. It's been a terrible experience. I'm probably gonna cancel it 'cause it's rubbish.

I had an air conditioning system problem and the contractor that AHS sent out told me that my out of pocket was $1,800. So instead of that, since the full replacement would take $4,000, I decided to replace it with a new system. I asked American Home Shield for a cash out and I had to call 10 times to inquire about this. And every time, I had to wait one hour. Then, it got resolved in 30 minutes. Also, they never gave me the direct number for the people who are actually going to approve the cash out. They'd call them and say they were going to call me back, but they never called me back and I had to call them back. If I didn't, they would have done nothing.

After so many days went passed, I finally got a call from them after so many attempts. And they told me that they were going to give me $450. I had the AC replaced before and it was not $450. To me, what they told me was that the contractor said that out of 1,800, $450 was for the part. But that's a scam. If I ended up not replacing the AC, the contractor would charge me $1,600. So it doesn't make sense to me that I'd get 450. Still, I agreed to the 450 and the customer service rep gave me some money back, for the one month payment. But the main thing is, I wasted so much time to get that $450 and it was not worth it. That $450 doesn't cover for fixing that thing, too. So, this whole thing was really disappointing and that whole process was really bad.

I've been with American Home Shield for 10 years and I have four homes with them. I know I have options and now, I seriously have to think about them if American Home Shield behaves like this. And maybe the other options will also be bad, but at least it will be cheaper because I'm paying $800 a year for the service. And instead of paying the $4,000, maybe I could replace the AC every year.

I could touch between the freezer door and the normal door and the space was very hot. There were two contractors that came. The first one came and said something. Then the other one came and said something. Then AHS went to a specialist. He came and said something and then finally this was resolved. They could not fix it. So they had given me an offer to cash out $2,000 something. I was going to go forward and purchase one and I was told that I need to purchase and then send AHS the receipt of the cost and that they will reimburse me up to that amount.

The water was flowing in the dispenser. But for some reason, as soon as the tech got here, it was working. So, he was only here for a couple of minutes and he tested it several times. He looked at it and looked underneath. He was very professional and had a mask on while he was here. As of today, the appliance is still working and I just paid $100 for nothing. I had another issue, which was for electrical, and the first company that AHS sent out was horrible. It was not their primary contact that they usually send out. I guess that vendor was all booked up because of COVID, so they had to search for another one. But the tech that came out from that company was here for a minute or two, refused to look at anything, wasn't wearing a mask, and was very rude.

Then, American Home Shield resolved the issue and sent out their primary vendor as soon as they were open to come back out. Other than that, AHS has been doing really well. Submitting claims with them has been pretty easy. You just log in to your account and submit payment, then they usually get in contact with you the next day or two. The hot water tank burst and water was all over the floor when I came into the room. I called American Home Shield and I wouldn't want the first guy that came out anymore. I had a gas water heater and American Home Shield had me bringing in chimney companies to do some other something to my chimney that cost more money. I know with other people that have had theirs switched out, they didn’t have to go through all of that. Even the chimney company people never even heard of whatever they were talking about. They didn’t even tell me what kind of company or who.

I felt real lost on it to the point where I wanted to give up with American Home Shield because I kept having problems to where nobody was knowledgeable enough to tell me from point A to point B what needed to be done. I didn't like that I didn't know that I had to pay another $655 myself. Nobody explained that to me. The contractor was the one to let me know that. Then I got an email message from the company. So the claims person didn't tell me a whole lot of what was supposed to be done. I would have to spend that kind of money and had a chimney company come in to certify the chimney. I'm pretty dissatisfied.

I had another claim with American Home Shield and the contractors came in and then they left. They said they were going to get the ceiling fan that I needed. But they never came back. Then the lady from American Home Shield went to argue with me over the home. But I finally got them to reimburse me my money back because they were always taking my money. American Home Shield needs to do a better job of training their contractors. They're sending these people into our homes, even now that COVID-19 is going on. Those first contractors that came out when I had the ceiling fan issue didn't even have masks on. I wouldn't allow them in my home because I take care of a brother that has a medical issue. So I made them go back to their vehicle and get a mask.

I've had this service for two years. This is the first time I’ve had to use them and I feel like I’m not getting a good service. After I had the bad experience about this ceiling fan, the person from American Home Shield that I talked to told me that from now, they would get me the best contractors within the area. The second people that came back, I was glad that I got them to put the hot water tank in. I was very pleased. They were with the same company but it was different people. The man that came the first time seemed it's a job and you know how people with an attitude, I just left him out there to do the work on his own. I didn't bother him.

I'm not happy with American Home Shield at all right now. If it wasn't for me dealing with my brother's situation right now, I would already be canceling the contract and going with someone else. I'm single and I need the service, but I'd like to have good service. They need to talk to some of their people or the ones that when we first initially filled out the contract that if we had issues with it, they shouldn’t have to be arguing with us. I didn't call up to argue when I had the issue with the ceiling fan contractor but the lady that I got the first time was beating up on me. I didn’t appreciate it so I called back and got someone else that reimbursed me my money.

I had a split mini unit down in my basement and American Home Shield didn’t have anything on their website when you put in a claim. So I put it in as a window unit because it's up there on the top like a window. Submitting the claim was simple but there needs to be something there when you need to add things. If you didn't see what your problem was on your claim, I’d like to see that you have the ability to put it in there and explain exactly what's happening. The claim hasn’t been handled but it was through no fault of anybody. The contractor wasn’t able to fix it so AHS sent somebody else, and they didn’t do it so they weren't able to fix it. Then, AHS sent somebody else again and the guy figured out what was going on but he didn't know if AHS would pay for the repair because it was a burned-out motherboard.

I’ve been with AHS for a little over a month. It seemed good and they told me that they cover the mini split because I did that before I even put in a claim. There isn’t any sense of putting a claim in if they're not gonna cover it but they said they do. They’ve gone out of their way to try to get it resolved but with what I was able to put on the claim and the information they had, it's a suspense. But the tech came out yesterday morning and I'm just waiting on AHS to call me back to tell me what they're gonna do. Still, I would recommend AHS because they've gone out of their way to try to help. They haven't ignored me. It's more of the website not having the ability to give them all the correct information.

The water wasn't draining because I put in the garbage disposal wrong. But then he told us exactly how to fix the problem. And when we fixed the problem, it worked fine. American Home Shield is great. It's saving me money.

My original service call to American Home Shield was for two appliances. One was a dishwasher and the other one was a fridge. The issues have not been resolved. Although American Home Shield thinks they're closed, I reopened them this morning because the dishwasher, on the first run, it had another error message. So, that didn't work. As far as the refrigerator, apparently, the technician diagnosed the problem. Then the contract was somehow transferred to another appliance repair person. Techno Appliance came out, and they could not identify the problem because it's like a sound. It makes a really loud sound, and they couldn't find the recording of the sound. So, they said, “Once you've got a recording of it, we can make a diagnosis and come back out again.” So, neither has been resolved.

American Home Shield as a company has been quite responsive. Submitting the claim was very easy. I first tried to call and speak to someone, but then it was a 75-minute wait. I just went online, and it was really easy online. I'll never call again. AG Appliance who came to fix the dishwasher was quite responsive but didn't fix it. And somehow, the contract for the fridge got transferred from AG Appliance to somebody else, so it's been a little bit frustrating. I'm a little bit dissatisfied, but I have told my parents that they should move their warranty to American Home Shield.

I have two homes and I have American Home Shield. I have a dishwasher they came out for and checked. The washer wasn't working right and so they came back and fixed the panel. But they couldn't get the parts for the dishwasher so they are going to get me a new one. I got ahold of them to check on what's going on and they said it's been okayed that I get a new one. The girl gave me the number to call and she transferred me to it. When I called that number, it was a three-hour waiting list. I one day called, I stayed on for almost two hours.

I work night shift. I sleep during the day and I must have dozed off, and the call was gone, so they must have answered. The music that they play is so annoying, I had it turned down. My daughter works from home, so I had it turned down, so if her voice came on, I didn't hear it. There is no call for a three-hour waiting list. "Oh, because of the virus and this and that." They're working from wherever. If every other company in the United States or the world can work from home now, why can't call centers work from home to take people's calls? It's all done on a computer.

I have a dishwasher I can't use and I still don't know who to even contact because I'm not waiting three hours. We emailed them. They sent us a response back and asked a couple of questions like how wide is the dishwasher or what's the inside, if it's metal or plastic. That's the last we heard from them, nothing saying what dishwasher that they would approve or anything.

I also have two air conditioning units in my house and they came out and fixed the outside unit. Of course, it was noted that they couldn't evaluate the inside unit until the outside unit was working. It took me two months to get the outside unit, which I understood because of parts and because of everything that's happening. When they finally got the outside unit, the inside unit freezes up and then I get warm air, which is gonna ruin the new outside unit I just got. If it's really hot, it runs and then the whole thing up in the attic just freezes over, then we have to shut it down. Then the outside continues to run. I've been back and forth with the company that put it in and they understand the problem.

So I can't use half of my house. I've been running one central air on half of my house with a zillion fans blowing. My electric is out the gazoo 'cause we've got all these fans running and they have not gotten back to me. I have to call them again. Then my daughter went on and said that American Home Shield put that it was all fixed, that they said the inside unit needs to be changed out. It's very frustrating especially with getting things fixed. But in my sister-in-law's house, C and R Appliance of Galloway came out for the dishwasher and fixed it. I was there working to get the house ready for sale.

But once the little company came, they were super nice. They were just slammed and busy. I always suggested AHS when I was selling real estate. AHS sent some people out here to look at it, and the contractors said that they’d have to order the part. Then they’d come back and said the part was no longer available. Then, American Home Shield did a process to replace the refrigerator. They replaced it so, I got no complaints. COVID-19 has got everybody. Most of them were working from home, so the process took a while. But it all worked out. I got no complaints about the claim process. All of the contractors sent by AHS were good. I've submitted the order form for a new unit. It went through a checklist. It was a very smooth and simple process. Even if Morgan Henry had been able to fix it, the workers were very professional in the way they came in and handled themselves. I like that Home Shield has the option to call back. But for those people that are just headstrong, like, “Estimated wait time, 45 minutes,” just to continue us. For me, it was, “Hey, you are 30th in line.” I know how many people are in front of me. I know some other companies do it. But I like the “Your current wait time exceeds this.” That way, people don't just care. It's like, “Okay, we'll help you when you're next in line.” An hour and a half later, it's like, "Okay."

They showed me what the simple solution was.

I did the claim on the AHS website. It was easy to use. The only downfall I've had with American Home Shield so far is that they will put the claim in quickly, but then the companies that they are choosing won't reach out in a timely manner. For more than one of our claims, we've had to ask for a different company because when the companies finally do reach out, they don't have availability for about a week or two. But if I ask for someone else, the reps have been helpful with it. They'll stay on the phone and they'll put me on hold while they try to call another company.

The first time they came, they replaced the condenser and the fan motor. Those broke again so I requested a revisit. The techs came out again without me paying a new charge. They found that something had shorted. The wires on the condenser fell off and burnt, so they replaced those as well. The AC has been working fine since then. So far, AHS has been good for me. It's very difficult to submit a claim with American Home Shield. I called in on the 26th of August. After seven business days, I still had not heard back from the provider to get the doors keyed. I finally just cancelled it as I was leaving to go out of town. I had called into American Home Shield two or three times saying I've never even heard back from the contractor. When I did that, they were just smart** to me.

On another claim, I called because the washing machine wouldn’t work. They sent somebody out. He said that the motherboard had quit working in the washing machine. He was still ordering the parts. That was on the 3rd of September. I called back in on the 10th of September. They told me two to five days with the parts getting in but they hadn't even ordered the parts. The guy said there was a screw up. I had to go buy a second hand washer and dryer so we've got something to use. I'm sitting here still with no parts for the washer and dryer. I can't even get the company to call me back and give me any kind of estimate or whenever they’d fix.

My experience so far with American Home Shield is terrible. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. They have poor customer service. They lack follow up. They lack compassion when they put a customer in an awkward situation. They really struggle with the words "I'm sorry." I'm in a field where we make mistakes sometimes and the first thing you should say is, “I'm sorry” and “Let me make it right." They don't do either one of those. I worked with Fidelity National with my previous home and they were excellent. We called them and there was somebody within probably five or six hours that at least lets you know, “We're gonna come tomorrow. It's gonna be a four hour window. We'll call you before we come.”

We had an issue with the dryer. The first two contractors who came were horrible and I didn't like them. I had had the one guy out to supposedly work on the dishwasher, then he came out on the dryer, and he said he’d fixed it. He was rude. He messed it up. He had pulled out several bird nests in the vent but he did not finish cleaning it. He kept saying that the dryer works fine. Well, of course, it didn't, and then it totally, absolutely quit. He was the same guy that told me I needed a new motor for the dishwasher. Then he went back to the company and said that there was nothing wrong. I gotta call for the things to find out and I said that it was not working right. AHS then sent out GE and the guy also said that I needed a motor. Then we had a new trap duct vent cover put up.

When I called back in, I specifically asked for a supervisor that I did not want the first gentleman back again. Lo and behold, I got a call from the same guy saying that he called to schedule my appliance repair. I told him last time not to come back to this house and I meant it. He said he had to get another company. Then National Platinum Service came out and this last guy was fantastic. He said to check the vent out. Since we had someone come out to do the vent, we thought everything would be fine. But fortunately, this guy from National ran back in the house ‘cause he had left the dryer on to make sure it ran all right and what he caught was the outside was totally blocked with lint. I had a friend of mine pull it out because he wasn't allowed to pull it out and it was probably six inches thick. He said that my house could have caught on fire. He was excellent. After many frustrating things we've had, it all ended up good.

I had an AC issue and Feels Good Air and Heating company came out. The guy made me feel really comfortable. He knew exactly what was happening and he explained it. Even on the second time when he had to come back out, he knew exactly what the problem was and why the problem came back. He was very professional and knowledgeable about his job. He and his assistant both wore masks and they put on the little footies over their shoes before they came into my house. I feel great about American Home Shield and I'm glad I have it. They've been a real help to me since I've been a homeowner. In my first home I purchased, I never had any complaints and the service that they provided and the warranty were beneficial to me.

The contractors that came for our heating issue resolved it. I got lost in the shuffle a little bit. He needed to pick up a part because it wasn't readily available. Then he got really busy because it took a little digging on his part to find it. But in the end, it all worked out 'cause they got everything back online before the cold weather hit. AHS is good. I've had three claims over two years. We bought an older home. The first one was horrible and I complained. Now, I get treated great completely. They couldn't be better in my book.

I had a hot water tank that went out and that was a fiasco. It was a game and I hope I never see the company that came again. They told me that there was wetness in my walls. I can't crawl on the walls and see but I didn't believe them. They took forever to finish. They called another sub-company to come and do this part and another company had to come and do that part. But overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. The service has been great. I'm elderly and disabled and we had high temperatures. We've been breaking records all year. The one person I spoke with about the AC understood that and got me service the same day. That was amazing for this time of year. The contractor was here a few minutes. It was a part that was needed and he had it on the truck. Everything went fine and I haven't had a problem since. He had shoes covering which I appreciated. He took them off when he went outside which some of the stupid guys don't do. He also had his mask on.

I've been with American Home Shield for three years and I’m satisfied. Submitting a claim is smooth and besides keeping the rate the same, everything else is good. I had an LED light on the temperature readout on my refrigerator and the upper left corner light wasn't lighting so you couldn't see the full number. I filed a claim and they sent Appliance Protection. I had them before for a couple other issues and they do the repair well but it takes a length of time for them to process, get the part and then to come back out. Their answering machine or to call them back is rather difficult. Sometimes their mailbox is full or it just rings.

I noticed that you never reach someone if you try to call to set the service up. One time, I reached someone and tried to set up the appointment for the AC person. It was in the afternoon and asked where the rep was calling from and what country. It was from Pakistan or Philippines and I thought that was kind of odd. Also, they asked me for my credit card information, which I didn’t give them because I told them it was on file. I had a problem with that one.

The next problem I have with American Home Shield is that you can’t talk to anyone to describe the problem. So you get only an option to click one option. For example, the AC person came and there were several things connected to the AC. We didn't get any air in the bedrooms and it was not cooling enough. But we could only click cooling problem. So when I asked the tech about the ducts or why we don't get any AC in the bedrooms, he said they couldn’t do that because they only covered one item. But it's great when you’re finally able to set an appointment online and not via phone. They are very prompt in making the appointment and arranging contractors.

Updated on 11/07/2020: My 17 year old refrigerator was serviced 5 times by 2 different companies and had numerous parts replaced and rebuilt and still kept failing. Finally, Robert **, AHS Social Media Specialist, contacted me to say they will pay $3000 for us to purchase a new refrigerator and even sent that to me in writing. He stated I have to contact him so his department can reimburse me. I have emailed him several times now with my receipt for a refrigerator that exceeded the $3000 limit and now... crickets! This company is a complete scam. If you don't reach out to me and reimburse me AHS, I will be taking you to court! Run, don't do business with this company. Absolute worst company out there!!!!!!

Original: We were out of town, came home, and we found that in our kitchen refrigerator, everything in the freezer had melted. There was water on the floor and all the food had to be tossed. The food in the refrigerator was still a little bit cold but the food had also started to go bad. So we called American Home Shield and placed the service request. They sent Alfa Appliances out. It took like six days. The original company they wanted to send out, I Googled them really quickly and they had the worst reviews. So, I declined and we went with Alfa.

Alfa came out. They had a technician who said my refrigerator needed an inductor. It needed a piece. They ordered it, it came pretty quickly, he came back and replaced that. The refrigerator did well for a week and a half tops. Then we started to notice once again that in the freezer, things started to melt. The refrigerator no longer made ice. Everything in the freezer started to get soft again. We tossed it. We called American Home Shield. The lady that I spoke with was very nice on the phone, but she turned out to be a fraud because she said that she would call Alfa Appliances and have them escalate everything, and promised to call me back the next day.

This was more than a week ago. I've never heard back from her. Just to get through, I had to wait an hour and a half for somebody to pick up the phone on American Home Shield because if you use their automated system, they're really quick to want to charge you even though it was a recall. Alfa Appliances came out again. The lady on the phone from American Home Shield said they would send out a senior rep. Alfa Appliances sent out the same rep who claimed he was their most senior rep. He said, "Oh, this time, another part failed. And we're gonna have to rebuild this part because the refrigerator company no longer makes this part." This is a refrigerator that will be 17 years old this November.

So they took the part and said they were gonna build it. I was upset. At some point, they've gotta think about replacing an almost 17 year old appliance. The lady I spoke with at American Home Shield agreed with me and said, "Yes, it seems kind of ridiculous. You've had the same problem twice, less than two weeks apart, you're waiting quite a bit of time to get parts and whatever, whatever." Alfa Appliances is telling me totally different things than American Home Shield.

American Home Shield claims, "Yes, had we known the first time Alfa Appliances came out what the problem was and you called a week and a half later with pretty much the same problem, we would have said it's probably time to buy a new refrigerator, and we would have transferred you to that department." Alfa Appliances then said, "No, as long as the refrigerator can be repaired, even if we have to rebuild the part, American Home Shield is not gonna pay for a new refrigerator." I'm stuck in the middle. I felt like a yo-yo, and nobody really can do anything.

I called to speak with the owner of Alfa Appliances, and I got into a shouting match because he accused me of trying to break my refrigerator so that I can scam American Home Shield out of a new refrigerator. I had spoken to another gentleman at Alfa Appliances when the technician was here the second time to take the second broken part. That person claimed to be the owner of Alfa Appliances. I called back after their true owner and I got into a shouting match. They said, "He's not here. He's not here." I spent all day calling.

He finally got on the phone, transferred me to their senior in-house technician, who apparently is the one that's rebuilding the broken part. I was not happy because I kept getting the runaround. But this technician actually seemed to be the most smart person in that office. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about. He spent about an hour explaining everything to me. He was great. But I'm not happy with Alfa Appliances. I'm waiting for them to call me. They don't even have a time frame, whenever they get a part that they need to rebuild the broken part to my refrigerator to come and install it.

If a month goes by, I'm afraid to buy groceries and keep tossing my food. This is the second time I've had to throw an entire refrigerator and freezer of food away. Nobody seems to care, nobody's reimbursing me, so I will likely look for a different company. I'm not happy with American Home Shield. Their hold times are horrible, their employees tell you what you wanna hear and then never follow up, which is what the owner of Alfa Appliances told me. And I do believe that part is true because it's what I've experienced. I've had American Home Shield for years. It's the first time I've ever used them and I'm so disappointed. They will be losing my business and they will be losing both of my mom's homes as well. And everybody that we know, I can promise American Home Shield will be losing at least three homes of business and everybody else that we know will be hearing about this as well.

I called American Home Shield and they gave me Barnett Air Conditioning and Heating to call. I called them and this nice lady said they couldn't be out till Monday afternoon between 1:00 and 5:00. They came about two o'clock in the afternoon. It took the guy three minutes to put a new compressor in and it worked ever since. Then one time, my washer broke and the contractor had to get the part at American Home Shield and give it to the plumber. I feel if American Home Shield would just let the plumber fix it when he came out, it would be better. That's the only time that happened though.

Initially only the Contractor AHS hired resolved our concerns. However, AHS has since reached out and made a good faith effort to help soothe our frustrations.

    Original Review: Sept. 2, 2020

Issue #1: Do not call Customer Service unless you have at least an hour to spend on the phone either trying to get across what you need, or listening to horrible hold music while the CSR "reads the notes".

Issue #2: Two weeks ago, we notified AHS that we would like to move forward on having our water heater replaced, and would NOT be accepting the cash in lieu option. The contractor was scheduled and paid for non-covered costs. The day of the appointment, I am told that the AHS "Purchasing Department was not notified you were not accepting the CIL". See above that AHS CSR was notified 2 weeks ago. I took a full day off of work due to contractor's 8A-1P "service window" and here it is 1:15PM and AHS Purchasing Department "should have this resolved by the end of the day."

Thankfully, the Seller paid for this AHS warranty so that helps ease the pain of dealing with AMERICAN Home Shield. Unlikely we will renew and we definitely will NOT be recommending them to anyone we know until their CSR department improves their understanding of the English language.

After purchasing coverage for my home, my A/C unit went out on Friday July 17, 2020. I contacted AHS on Saturday July 18, 2020 at about 11am, after I had an A/C repairman come and advise the repair would cost more than the $100 copay. AHS advised a repairman would be at my home within 24 hours. On Sunday at 11am I received a text from AHS advising my repair would be complete by 5pm on Friday, July 24, 2020, then that was changed to 5pm on Monday, July 27, 2020. At 5 pm on the 27th no one had shown or called. AHS was contacted and I was advised that the repairman had not responded to them and no other repairman was in my area and I'm less than 1 hour from Atlanta GA. AHS advised I would have to find a repairman and pay out of pocket, but would be reimbursed after submitting my paid receipt. The receipt was submitted at 8am on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

Today's date is September 2, 2020 and I have still not received a refund, nor can anyone at AHS advise why. AHS has 3 call centers, 2 in the Philippines and 1 stateside and none of them can answer why. So before you purchase ask about repair person availability and how long it will take to get your money back. Personally, I would have been better off to have hired my own from the start, not done without A/C for 10 days and saved the hassle of fighting to get my money back.

This time I had an electrical issue. The contractors were extremely thorough, spent a great deal of time troubleshooting and then left. They felt they needed to cut sheetrock and weren't authorized to do so. This was a week ago. I have contacted AHS 3x since then and still no further communication nor resolution. I have EXTENSION CORDS powering part of my garage so that my door opener works. I even had a supervisor take a look. Still no word back. Stacy is a real problem solver! AHS is lucky to have her on their team. She listened to the issues I had with the company and the way they chose not to honor the service they are selling. I was so disgusted with them. Thanks to Stacy, I am more satisfied with the outcome of the repair expenses. Awaiting much needed reimbursement funds.

    Original Review: Sept. 2, 2020

AHS will not cover the repairs to my elderly mothers a/c unit. She called to make a claim on August 24, 2020, they charged her $75 immediately to start the claim and have a repair technician come out. The guy came out (Absolute Comfort) to look at the a/c and told her the coil was bad and needed replacing along with handler and float switches. He told her the repairs would total $1300 and that AHS would not cover the cost. We waited over an hour to reach AHS again to discuss the issue, when an agent picked up, they immediately disconnected.

Because she is a 75 year old lady that had a triple bypass last year there was no room to continue to fuss with them and go without air. Currently the Houston, TX heat index is 110* or higher on some days. We found a repairman to do the job on August 28, 2020. American Home Shield still refuses to pay although her plan covers air conditioners. The company is fraud, they are a bunch of scam artist. They lack empathy especially for the elderly. No one here has asked for a handout, only that the company follows through with its agreement.

I answered the questions correctly but it wasn’t the question that they’ve got. I don't understand that so I call and I can talk to someone. Once I get somebody on the phone, and we get it started, somebody's here. I don't like being frustrated, arguing with the computer, telling me I don't know where I was born, how old I am and my parents' names. That's the only part I had that drives me bananas.

A+ Appliance came out for my dryer. I asked questions and asked what was going on. They told me exactly what was wrong and showed it to me as well as what needed to be ordered. They ordered it, they came in and they snapped it in. I started my dryer and I've had no issues. I am very satisfied with my experience with AHS. I’ve had an account since like 17 and I've used them several times. Every time, they have fixed my issues.

The technician was great. There was frozen ice on the floor of the freezer and though it wasn't what he thought it was, he did repair it. It was a clogged drain line in the freezer and everything's fine right now. We did have another experience with American Home Shield. Our 14-yr old air conditioner stopped working. We weren't surprised but by the time they sent somebody out, we had water leaking on the ceiling of the garage and we have a water leak on the ceiling in a hallway.

The company that came in said, “We can put a Band-Aid on it. It's 14 years old, but we'll be back in two or three months.” According to them, that's how American Home Shield works. I ended up having it replaced because I didn't have the time nor the $75 every time they come out. Then I got an email from American Home Shield saying that they wouldn't pay for the freon. It was $716 and they were only gonna pay $120. the rest of it, $7,000, came out of my pocket. They said it was an upgrade, that it could have been repaired, and their policy is they'll send a repairman out in two or three months, whatever it needs. I’m paying $75 each time they come out which is peanuts. I'm not complaining about that but if it was the condenser this time and it's a broken line next time, that doesn't count towards replacing it because it's a different repair.

I was in the basement with an electrician at the time that the first-floor tenants were taking a tub. All of a sudden, water was pouring into the basement. It turned out to be an overflow. When I told the tenant I put in a claim and the contractor was gonna come fix that, she said there were a ton of other things that didn't work. This is this is a new two-family for me that I had recently purchased and she said that the faucet in the kitchen sprays water out everywhere when you turn on the sprayer. Also, there was something wrong with the toilet. I placed two claims and the plumber took it from there. He called American Home Shield and told them what was wrong. The plumber found so many things wrong that I reached the limit for my plumbing. But when I signed up, I didn't even know I had a limit. That wasn’t great.

The claims process with AHS is good but when you call in, it takes too long to get someone on the line. You're on hold for too long. I can do it online but I'm on the road a lot. I'm not home at a computer so it's harder for me to do it online. I wish we could use our own people such as our own plumbers. The Maytags are a little bit cheaper and they were telling me it was the same thing. But I have noticed that with the amount that they gave me, I did have to downgrade a little bit not necessarily in quality but at least the brand. If you go to Lowe's and buy an appliance, sometimes, LG fridges are $2,500 and the other ones are cheaper.

In my situation, there are some things that are slightly frustrating. One thing is with this AC. We had the contractor out to fix it earlier this spring or the summer. They came out here and 66 days later, it quit working again. It was outside of the 60 days so I gotta pay over again as if it was like a new service. I've got an aging system so they kinda keep coming out and kinda like getting it through to the next time as opposed to 100% fixing it. The other thing is they have this scheme going with these AC guys. It's the AC industry in general, but here's how it works. I'm a licensed contractor so I do remodeling and construction. I have accounts at the place where this product is sold. I can't buy freon because I'm not a licensed AC guy. But the way it works out is it's $6 or $7 a pound. It's very inexpensive.

American Home Shield only pays $10 a pound for freon so I get a bill from my HVAC guy separately for it and they're having to charge me some sort of much higher rate. They're charging like a 2,000% markup. They said it's something to do with my contract with American Home Shield. It wasn't as bad this time. It was only $90. But what's happened in the past is a $400 bill for a few pounds of freon. I can buy the whole bottle of 20 pounds for $300. They have purchasing power to purchase stuff and keep your stuff running a little bit cheaper than you can potentially. When I call an AC guy out, if I don't know anything, they can come out here and hose me.

The big part of American Home Shield is they're supposed to have negotiated rates to get this stuff done. But they kinda hang you out to dry on the freon situation and I really do not like that at all. I have to call Billy’s ‘cause they sent me this big bill for freon. I don't mind paying 20, 30, 50% markup on the product and they gotta carry a docket but it's like they're not going to buy a bottle at $1 a pound then tell me it's $20.

I've had AHS for a minimum of 15 years and it's been wonderfully beneficial. It's saved me a lot of money. I've recommended American Home Shield to anybody that wanted to listen. Recently for my claim, the contractor's initial run here was fine. He was a very polite man. I'm waiting for him to come back and do the actual repair. It was a ceiling fan, and so it had to be purchased.

There was a part that was burnt and messed up in my AC. I submitted a claim with AHS and it was pretty easy. Then, they sent out the techs from Budget HVAC and they fixed what was happening. The AC is running well now. All in all, my experience with AHS was great.

The garbage disposal went out. American Home Shield sent Draingo came out, and everything went lovely. The techs were keeping their distance and they wore masks. American Home Shield is a pretty good service. Submitting a claim is not difficult. You can do it online or you can call.

I have my home and I have a rental property with American Home Shield. I've been pleased over the years with both properties, but I'm not pleased with my last call, which was an issue with the ductwork. The ductwork came down because of the age of the home and I was trying to get them to cover it. I had two contractors come out and both of them told me that American Home Shield doesn't cover ductwork, but I felt like American Home Shield does. With the first contractor, both of the departments weren't aware that it was a crawlspace under the house. They were also unsure if ductwork repair would be covered, which is why I called American Home Shield and asked for someone else to come back out.

The second contractor cleaned the exterior of my unit, crawled under the house and had the same findings as the first one. He saw that there were some ductwork repairs that needed to be done, said he would get back in touch with me, and I haven't heard anything yet. The guy also took pictures and showed me that some of the ductwork had holes in them and needed to be replaced, but no one else has contacted me. I got a quote and it was external under the house repairs and possibly a new unit. There were different prices and the final quote was extremely expensive.

I had an appliance issue and American Home Shield sent MC2 Appliance Services out. They did repair it. It’s running okay now. It’s just like there is another button there that wasn’t working very well, but the tech said that that one wasn't covered with AHS. I didn't know there was a distinction when I was signing up, but it wasn't an issue. I spent three minutes trying to manage it, turn it around just a little bit and it clicks. I would love that to be replaced but he said it’s not covered. The main issue he was here for was covered.

When I identified the problem, I went online on Sunday late at night, and I submitted the claim to AHS and they got back to me with an automatic text explaining everything and that somebody would be in touch with me by Sunday morning. I woke up Sunday morning and MC2 sent the text saying the technician will be here on Tuesday. It was 72 hours, but it wasn't an emergency thing. It was fixed. So I like it.

With our most recent claim, Quality Services came out and were very careful. The guy had a mask on. He may have had gloves on too. He also kept his distance for me. He was in and out as quick as he could and fixed the microwave. I didn't have to sign anything. He did everything just exactly how he should. It was great. So far, American Home Shield has been excellent. I know that some of our neighbors in our neighborhood have the same type of policy through American Home Shield and they've had some issues, but we have nothing but good things to say about them.

Every now and then, a person gets a contractor that kinda wishes he'd been able to pick somebody different. There are some choices in that with American Home Shield and that's fantastic because we like to be able to have some say-so in what contractor comes out. Filing claims have been so easy and it literally takes no time at all on the website. The response is really quick from the contractors, they call really quickly. If they don't, I can call them, so it's no problem.

My mom is in her 70s, and she has an American Home Shield policy, and all she does is complain about it but it's because everything's online. She would much rather pick up the phone and call somebody. However, the wait is horrible when calling although I take care of it for her. I hope this could be improved because I am really hesitant to call them as I don't have a lot of time to sit and wait, and it's probably no less than at least a 15-minute hold. Sometimes I'm on the phone for over an hour 'cause I'm having to be transferred from person to person. Probably any other company out there is gonna have the same issues with the hold time on the phone calls. Overall, they do such a good job.

The folks in the front line, the customer service folks, are in a tight spot to try and satisfy customer requests however I don't hold their management at that organization in high regards at all. They hide behind their front line people who take all the heat and then their management squeezes every last penny of profit they can.

The refrigerator is not working. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield by phone and it was a good experience speaking with their rep. They told us about the timeframe it would take for the contractors to come out. However, I had to call the contractors to get the appointment set ‘cause they didn't have the information yet from American Home Shield. Then it was gonna be days before they were able to come out. But the guy that showed up was nice and confident that he could get it fixed.

He ordered parts, and those came in days later. Then we made another appointment to get the parts installed. He replaced a heater motor and the thermostat motor and said to leave it off for 24 hours and then turn it back on, and he said we'd be good to go. But that only lasted for about 10 days, and then we had the same problem. The refrigerator stopped cooling.

They made another appointment, again, days out, before they could get back to us. He came, looked, checked and said yes, it was the same problem happening. Since he had replaced those two parts, he said it must be a wiring thing that's on the inside that he couldn't fix. We are hoping to get a replacement, but we're waiting for a second opinion from Sears, and that's not scheduled till this week.

It’s a hassle dealing with AHS. It's not worth the trouble. Because if we didn't have American Home Shield when the refrigerator initially stopped working, we just would’ve gone and got a new refrigerator and moved on. We're very dissatisfied. All we want is a working refrigerator. Since we've moved in, we haven’t really had a functioning refrigerator in our kitchen.

American Home Shield is not too good with air conditioning. I live in the sticks and the closest contractors in our area say they would never do business with American Home Shield. They hate them because AHS lowballs them. For my AC claim, AHS had to send someone from 70 miles away. AHS just kept wanting to patch my unit that was 20 something years old for five years in a row. Air conditioners are high-dollar items. I had to pay for half of the cost for the replacement unit I got. I told AHS to tell me how much they would pay their contractor to come to my location and put that down towards a new unit for me. They agreed. More recently, we had a leak coming from a pipe. My wife notified American Home Shield and they sent Hardy Plumbing Co. Things have been okay since they came out.

I moved here in November, and the woman that sold me the house included American Home Shield with it. I called for my AC but I couldn't get through, so I did the claim online, which was easy. Ohohna came out and it went very well. The technician gave me a lot of information on what he was doing and I stood there and I watched him for a while. He cleaned out the entire AC unit ‘cause it was filled with mud, then filled it up with Freon and explained a lot to me. It's an older unit but it's working better.

Suffolk Appliance Parts came out a couple of times to fix the dryer and the last time they came, they couldn’t fix it. They said they gave Home Shield a notification that they cannot fix it and Home Shield is supposed to call me back about it. I got a message on my phone but they said they're gonna contact me. There was something about the information being wrong in the system and they were supposed to get back to me last Monday to let me know how they were gonna resolve the issue. I have not heard anything yet.

The pilot light kept going out. We would relight it and then it would go out so we weren't getting any hot water. AHS sent Immediate Response Plumbing & Rooter Service. The plumber said he thought there was a little bit of water in the pan and leak in the water tank, which was weird for us because it was just replaced not six months ago. But he said we'd have to get a new one. That day, AHS approved it and we scheduled a time for the people to get a new one. We had to pay $100, which I was okay with. I just thought it was a little not fair ‘cause we just replaced the water heater not such a short time ago. But everything went smoothly. There was one air conditioning company that they sent out that I didn't like. I called AHS and told them about it and that the company ripped us off and suggested things that weren’t needed. AHS quickly changed to another company and sent the other company right out.
