My washing machine went out. It wasn’t working. I called the toll free number of AHS and their rep was good. She set it up for me. She told me the company that was gonna come out. We set up the date and time. Everything worked out fine. The contractor sent by AHS was great as well. My appointment was between 8:00 and 10:00, and he was there like 8:20. He called ahead of time and said that he was on his way. I let him know that my doorbell wasn’t working right and he called me when he got outside. He told me everything that he was going to do. He brought me in and showed me the disassembled washing machine and gave me a recommendation. He was great. He was very engaging and very interested in making sure that the problem didn’t happen again. He was just, overall, a really good person.

I requested for service online and it was easy. Also, the contractor American Home Shield sent was great. I contacted them on Wednesday and they scheduled me for Monday, but I had to bump it to Tuesday. They worked with my schedule and they called me before as well as when they were on their way. They were in and out, did everything quickly and did a good job.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for my air condition and it was good with the rep on the phone. Myers Comfort Specialists then called me back but it took seven days to get them out to me. They said they were booked. I called AHS to see if they have somebody else and the guy that I spoke to told me there was nobody else that could come out. The tech was really nice, though, once Myers got here. He put a new fan motor on and charged the unit back up. He said it was low on Freon.
Myers has been out here five times for the same unit so, I'm not really pleased. Before this, they came out on April 29 and the guy said he found a wire on the compressor to be shorted and he repaired it. A month later, it’s out again. But with AHS, it hasn't been that bad overall. They recently replaced a new stove for me. I like American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield for my air conditioner that was broken and they scheduled someone to come out within the next 48 hours. The contractors were great and explained what they did. The air conditioner seems to be okay though my bedroom is still warmer than the rest of the house. I'm not sure if that's something to do with the air conditioner or what, but it's pretty hot in Las Vegas.

With my latest claim with American Home Shield, it appeared to me that the service guy was intentionally trying to get out of doing the service. He didn't fix it. He analyzed the dishwasher as needing a new motor. But he didn't say that, he said, "You need a new motor." My wife was taking care of it. I'm handicapped and I wasn't with her. What's wrong with the dishwasher is that it won't wash on the upper part. The upper arm isn't working. He analyzed that the pump needed to be replaced. He didn't put any of that on the work order, and he had my wife sign a blank work order. But in the small print above the signature, it says that you guarantee that this work was complete. So it was a deceptive form. He didn't do anything but analyze the problem. And he had her sign that blank form and then he left.
I reported it to Home Shield that I needed a call back. And whoever I spoke to from Home Shield said that he would put us in for a call back, and they should call back within so many hours and they never called back. The guy that I talked at Home Shield when I was asking for the recall just happened to mention that, evidently, the technician told them there wasn't anything wrong with the dishwasher. But he didn't do anything to fix it, and the problem is still there in the dishwasher. It doesn't work right. It's gotta pump water up to the upper spinner up at the top to get those upper dishes, and it doesn't do that. I'm very dissatisfied with this. I paid $75 to get my dishwasher fixed, and they claim that if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. My dishwasher isn't fixed.

We recently called in for two claims. One is for the top-loader in the other house. It took so many days before the contractor could get out. Then he came and thought he would fix the part. He ordered that part, came back, and fixed it. But it was the same thing happening as when he came out so we called again and it took him so many days before he could come out. The guy misdiagnosed it. He thought he fixed the part but it wasn't the right one. Now, they've ordered a part and it's taking almost two weeks and they still haven't got the part in to come back and fix the top-loader. If it is waiting for a part, what's not fun is it's out of their control, it's taking weeks. I think it would get in sooner than that. I don't understand that part of it and that's what I'm complaining about. I think we'd get some kind of reimbursement for laundry but we don't have receipts to show that. My son has a family of seven and they're having to go to the laundromat. It's really crazy.
With the other washer claim on our house, we also had to wait for the part but it was just like a day and another contractor fixed it. It's working fine. We also had a claim with the ice maker in the past and somebody came for that. In the end, American Home Shield sent someone out who knew what they were doing, which is trial and error on the AHS part. Overall I would recommend AHS. I've had them for many years and they've done good by us most of the time.

We filed a claim with American Home Shield for our air conditioning that was not cooling the house. The contractor came and diagnosed that we needed more Freon. So, he added Freon to the system and charged me more. Everything is working great but I got charged more doing it this way than me just calling my own personnel. I expected that Home Shield warranty would pay more. I paid $100 plus the cost of the Freon when I could have called somebody and probably gotten a cheaper visit than $100. American Home Shield is too expensive.

I had someone come out to evaluate an air conditioning unit. The online claim with American Home Shield was straightforward to do. I've noticed that regardless of internet speed, it's a little bit slower to connect to their website. But I was able to submit the claim and get everything done and they were able to get back to me within two days. There was a follow-up repair needed because the original installer installed the unit incorrectly which was frustrating. But they were able to come out a little bit quicker. It was within two days again. And thankfully, it was an upstairs issue and I had air downstairs. It was fine under the circumstances. The AC was replaced. And it has been working fine. Overall, it was a good experience with AHS.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield is fairly complicated. I’m still waiting to hear back from the electrician. He hasn’t finished resolving the problem yet. Before that, I had a plumber come to replace the main valve on the water line. He caused a problem when he touched the ground wire and electrocuted himself. It caused several outlets in my home to no longer function.
I did the original claim online to get the plumber but when everything went awry, I called and talked to people. They assured me that they were going to cover sending the electrician. They weren’t gonna charge me for that because the plumber caused the problem. American Home Shield did send an electrician who came fairly quickly to make sure there was no immediate danger and he assessed that everything was in safe order. He did a very quick assessment. He didn’t fix what got broken and he said he was gonna come back after he returned from vacation to fix the outlets that got fried. I have left him several messages and haven’t heard back from him. But American Home Shield has been very responsive and good. The reps have been great. When I’ve dealt with them, they've tried to get things resolved as quickly as possible.

I'm a Realtor so I've been familiar with American Home Shield policies for many years and I sell a lot of them to clients. I also recommend to my friends to insure their homes all the time. American Home Shield is a great organization and I've had nothing but positive results. Sometimes, I wish they had more vendors though. I kind of live in a rural area and it's limited, in terms of getting people signed up to do the work. I have an AC claim and this one is coming from about 40 miles away. There's nobody right in our little area and they're busy folks so sometimes, it takes a little time.
On the other hand, I call claims in to American Home Shield and within 24 hours, I get a call from the vendor. With this claim, I had a response from American Heating & Cooling within 24 hours. We set a schedule then they came, analyzed the problem and sent in their findings. I talked with someone from American Home Shield and they informed me that there was a part that had been suggested but that part would not be available until way after air conditioning season. With that, I can't run that unit. A claim has been set for the outside portion to be replaced and that part has been ordered based on their estimates. It should be in by the end of this week and then American Heating & Cooling and I would coordinate for the installation.

We called and was told that our system was no longer able to keep up with the Day time heat -- which after they explained their reasons for making this statement -- made sense. Our system had been repaired, parts replaced, and after 20 years some times new is the best route. The guys got us on the schedule, right away -- and had the job done, with new upgraded codes done -- in less than 6 hours. Our system works beautifully -- it is ice cold in here now at 79 -- I have no regrets about doing the replacement by this company -- AHS did not pay for a new system -- but they helped us by giving us a discount with the company that did the work.

Filing a claim with American Home Shield seems pretty easy. You just call and pay the 75 bucks then they get ahold of somebody. They’re kind of slow though. We've got another claim in right now for our dishwasher and the technician came out to look. Now, they have to have permission to be able to do this and that. It seems like that process takes way too long. We haven't had a dishwasher now in two weeks. And for the other claim, we still haven't heard back. AHS' $75 co-pay is a little steep. If I was to have called the plumber myself and my issue is something simple, it would have been $75 or less. I’ll take the $75 a month if I had to pay that per visit plus my monthly expense also. Still, I renewed my AHS warranty after I had it for free the first year. One time, I had a water leak and there were two or three spots in my hall where water was under the hardwood floor going swish, swish, swish. It turned out that the issue was the AC drain from the humidity. The techs unclogged it and did things to help prevent the issue in the future.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for the AC furnace and the process was easy, but it was a little confusing since it was my first claim. They should make a little more feedback and communication. The first reason I called was the AC wasn't working in summer. So the tech came out, and inspected the AC and the furnace or air handler. He said that the old system was shot but since he only came out for the AC, I should put in anther request for my air handler. It was okay with me, so I called American Home Shield and told them that the air handler is broken and they need to take a look at it. They said okay.
But the tech said that he won't come out and then he just gave me a piece of document to record again. Then they charged another $100. So I called again because the tech didn't come out to anything so it didn't make sense for me to pay for any extra man-hours. I spoke to somebody from India and it didn't help. He even asked what "AC" was. But other than that, I've recommended American Home Shield to a friend.

We broke our AC unit. It kinda exploded and made the whole house shake for an amount of time. Then I turned it off and submitted a claim with AHS online. It was super easy and I’ve done it before for other items in the house that went bad. They sent out A & R Complete Service and they were really good. They came out the next day and the work they did was pretty solid. They showed me the air handler that blew itself up then I talked to the main lead. He told me what was wrong and how long they will take to fix it. He said that they could get it fixed that day but it’d be $800 out of pocket, which I elected not to do. Then they had to reschedule it, but it was right in the middle of the weekend. Still, they came out when they could and they completely fixed the issue on Tuesday. So far, we have no issues at all and the AC is working is great.

My air conditioner wasn’t working and A/C Rescue, Inc. came out to service it. I would prefer to do my claims with American Home Shield online but their online service doesn’t let you put any details. It just lets you list an appliance but not what’s wrong or what’s happening. Our actual issue turned out to be something wrong with the downstairs unit that was triggering both units to shut off. So, when the contractor came out, he said, “Well, it only says AC. It doesn’t say check more than one.” So, we tried to tell them what was going on. And so, he replaced a capacitor on the upstairs unit. The upstairs unit has been working fine, but the downstairs unit wasn’t. And so, we had to wait and get them to come out again.
I had to call American Home Shield and argue with them to get them to put it on the same claim, to get them to understand that it was still the same issue, and that the guy never looked at both units. And so, they sent someone out who replaced the capacitor on the downstairs unit. But within two days, we had no air again. And we’re like, “Something is making this trigger. Something is making it jump off.” And it turned out that the compressor had a short that was triggering it to shut it down. So, all in all, it took three weeks on a Texas summer to get it repaired.
Also, within two weeks of us getting our calls with the AC repair, our washing machine started leaking. And that one took six weeks, and I had to bring all the laundry to the Laundromat. The part finally came in after five weeks. But when they came to put in the part, they said there was another part they should have ordered that they didn’t order. So then, we had to wait for the second part to come in. And so, that added another week on to it. AHS offered me a $400 buyout on the $2,200 washing machine. They said I could either wait six weeks or take the $400, which was no way I was gonna do. I had to spend $80 something a week for laundry at the Laundromat. I ended up losing $400 just by waiting. The machine's been fine since and I appreciate the work that they did. Days later, our refrigerator started having a problem, and that was fixed quickly without any issues.
Moreover, the times that I’ve had to call their customer service line, I’m talking to people in the Philippines, and they are on a totally different time zone. It’s a 12-hour difference, and they have absolute zero understanding of what I’m talking about. And then when I asked to talk with a supervisor, they said, “There’s no supervisors available.” I finally did speak with a supervisor, but I had to get kind of ugly with them on the phone until I got one, and I waited for like 40 minutes until I got one. Then, the supervisor was like, “Yeah, all you have to do is ask for one and they’ll get you.” And I’m like, “No. I waited 40 minutes.” All I really wanted them to do was to try to do a search on how much longer it was gonna take for a machine part to come in. All in all, I can’t say that I’m very dissatisfied with AHS. I’m willing to continue my year of contract and see how experiences are moving forward.

We recently filed a claim for a plumbing issue. There was a tiny little leak in our storage room and it was coming from a pipe that was in an exposed ceiling. We filed the claim with American Home Shield over the weekend and it was easy but I was surprised with how long it took. The contractor called us on Monday and the earliest they could come was Wednesday but I had them come on Thursday ‘cause of our schedule. Had it been a bigger leak, I would’ve pitched a little fit and told them that they needed to get out here. But we just had a little bucket under it, and it was fine.
The contractor repaired it but I wasn’t super impressed. I felt like they were a little bit sloppy. I asked if I should move stuff out of the way and they said, “No, no. It’s fine.” Then they were sloshing dirty pipe water all over my stuff and didn’t clean up everything when they left. They didn’t empty the buckets that they used. Otherwise, they seemed like they knew what they were doing. They put a patch on it, and everything seems to be fine.
Good evening Kate,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The air conditioner was not blowing cold air. When the repair guy showed up, he was very professional and very well-groomed. My wife also said he was courteous. He replaced a part and the air conditioner has been working fine. We had a different problem with the air conditioner a year ago and American Home Shield had to pay around $4,000 for the Freon. But it’s frustrating that you can’t call American Home Shield and talk to somebody. You always have to email them or send it to them. But we’ve saved some money with the warranty, and they have been responsive, so we like it. They’ve worked on our microwave and on our air conditioner. They’ve done a good job for us in general in the five years that we've had them.

My refrigerator is having an issue where the icemaker keeps leaking down the door onto my floor and staining it. It's in my second house that we plan on retiring to. A claim with American Home Shield was submitted over the phone and United Service came out to do repairs. They seemed to be really efficient. They replaced almost all of the pipes that were there. Then when my brother-in-law left and went back the next day, he said that there was still some moisture again. The guys have been out twice now and we're really not even sure if it has been fixed. One of the guys thought that it might need a new door on the refrigerator itself. So it's just gonna be a wait-and-see thing.
My brother-in-law is the one who's handling this for me and he's so impressed with the guy from United Services, how they call back and how they check on it. Everything up and down the line was so efficient. He thought that it was really good and he called me up last night to ask who my company was 'cause he had picked another one, and I told him that it was American Home Shield. He is looking for a plan and I'm sure he's gonna join AHS too.

I did a claim for the bathroom and the sink. The bathroom is fully fixed. It’s not leaking inside the bath and there’s no water on the floor inside the bathroom or in the living room. When the guy fixed the bathroom, he put in like an intake and outtake valve. I had to pay ‘cause it was not covered by American Home Shield. They did a good job ‘cause the guy was real friendly. He sat down and explained everything to me. He told me what to do with the wall 'cause he had to cut a hole in it. He told me to check with American Home Shield and see if that is covered or not. They are gonna do the wall and put like a little door there because if it happens again, instead of continuing cutting that hole, they're gonna look at doing something different. They were really helpful. However, the guy said there was nothing wrong with the kitchen sink but it’s wet under the sink now. The stuff in the cabinet is wet.

The refrigerator stopped cooling. I called in my claims with AHS a couple of times, but this time I did it by the website and it seemed like I’ve gotten a call-back from the contractor quicker by calling in than I did by the website. But there were two different contractors. The ones with the washer and dryer called back that same day. With the website, it was the next day. Both of them were very knowledgeable, and usually they were quick fixers. With the refrigerator, they had to make two calls. A matter of fact, the other man just came and re-diagnosed the problem and was able to fix it in a few minutes where he got it working. So now we have to see whether it’ll continue to work.
The fan, the first time, they felt it was clogged up with dirt, because I just bought the house in January, and I never thought to look underneath it. And so they unclogged it, and then apparently, this time, the fan wasn’t turning. They took it apart, got the fan turning a little bit, and he said it should work. But if it doesn’t work, then it means it needs a new fan. So we’re hoping that it’s gonna work for a while now. Other than the warranties have been good. It seems expensive to call, pay $75 for a guy to come and spend 10 minutes at your house. But I’m sure that it’s cheaper than just calling a repair store directly, so it’s okay. AHS had done everything they said they were gonna do.

If they had other techs that weren’t up to that quality, it would be a bad thing. But he analyzed the problem quickly and was very courteous. We had a plumbing issue so I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. It was easy to do, and their website was user-friendly. I was notified that I would hear from someone within 24 hours. And then, they would call to solidify a time. So, both of those things were done. The contractor was here on time. He was able to do what needed to be done. He just told me the job was finished, but he didn't give me any explanation. So, I did have to ask him to get those in particular because he didn't share that.
Once the repair was done, everything is fine. We were just on hold. From the time that I put in the request to when the contractor came, it took two days. Now, the two days was the turnaround. Especially when you're talking about things being backed up in water, I would have preferred something sooner, but it worked out. We made the adjustment. I noticed one day when I came home, the air conditioner unit downstairs was not working. It was set on 72, but the temperature was 81. And then the upstairs unit was set on 72, and it was blowing out 77 is what the thermostat read. I submitted a claim online to AHS and it was pretty easy. When I filed it, it was around 6 o’clock at night, so I didn’t figure anybody would come out then. Within just a few moments, I had a notification on the email that said they were contacting the service provider, I should hear from them in the morning. Rapp’s tried to reach out to me but couldn’t get in touch with me, so I got another email that said, “Please contact your contractor. They tried to reach out but couldn’t get in touch with you.” So, then I, in turn, followed up with a phone call and got everything scheduled on the phone.
The contractors were very nice and got to it very quickly. Once they got it scheduled, they gave me a four-hour window. He gave me a 12:00 to 4:00 window. He called me at 4 o’clock and said, “I am leaving Asheville now. I’m on my way to you.” He then, in turn, called me at 4:30 and said, “I’m stuck in traffic, but I’m still on my way. I just wanted to let you know that I didn’t forget about you.” He was very courteous when he arrived. He put his little shoe booties on and came in the house, explained everything to me, and was actually able to fix the problem at hand with the downstairs unit while he was there.
The downstairs unit, which was the reason for the service request, but I actually put in there that I wanted him to check the upstairs as well. The downstairs unit seems to be working fine now. The upstairs unit, he did inform me, is on its way out. He did some temperature checks. The return air was sucking in the hot air like it’s supposed to. It was sucking in 77, but it was blowing out 67. So, he let me know that, “There’s a restriction somewhere, and your unit is probably not gonna last much longer.”
I was gonna call AHS and let them know that ‘cause I didn’t know if he noted that on his paperwork. So, the upstairs unit is still struggling. But because the downstairs unit is working, the upstairs unit is just never cutting off. It’s having to run constantly to keep that temperature at 73. I raised it a little bit to keep it from having to work so hard to keep it as cool as we all like it. So, I’m not for sure how much longer that unit’s gonna last. But I was very pleased with both parties involved, American Home Shield and Rapp’s, how they handled the service request and the speed in which it was handled. I’ve already referred AHS to friends and realtors too.

We recently had a problem with the HVAC unit. There was a line that ended up being clogged, and it was causing a puddle underneath the condenser. And in the process of selling the home, the homeowner inspection found it, and so we had to get it fixed. We made a claim with American Home Shield online, which was easy. The contractor came out in two days. And his professionalism and quality of work were good. The only issue that we had was as a result of the home sale, the buyer’s agent required a receipt that said exactly what was done to fix it. And initially, the receipt that we got from them was very generic and said that they showed up and they fixed the problem. But it didn’t say what the problem was or what they did to fix it. And it probably took two weeks for us to get an actual statement of work of what it was that they actually did. And it was multiple phone calls back-and-forth to try and get that statement from them.

But it was really alarming for me that the lady said that the ticket that they put in was a request and that it would be up to 48 hours before I would hear from a technician to actually schedule an appointment and to come out to do an assessment to find out what was wrong with the AC then possibly repair it. I told the lady that was unacceptable as it was an AC issue in the middle of the summer in Texas.
She put in to have the order expedited. I had to call the repairman because I didn't wanna sit and wait for them to call me. I wanted to be proactive. When I was contacted by the sales team at American Home Shield, I asked specifically what plan fully covered my home and that was their best policy as I wanted everything in my home covered as much as possible including my pool in the back yard. I was sold a 3x3 Combo plan and was reassured it was the absolute best plan to cover everything in my home, and this is where the LIES begin.
So, three months after purchasing my home warranty, my A/C goes out, I figure, that it was a lucky/smart move getting this home warranty on suggestion of my family members since I live alone and work crazy hours, it would be better to be able to make a phone call to get something fixed as I just don't have the time or in some cases like this one the knowledge to complete. So, as I said earlier, the A/C went out, in Texas, in the middle of summer, so I called American Home Shield, they dispatched someone to my house 2 days later, yup, you guessed it, 2 days.
The technician came out of the attic and said the condenser coil was a solid block of ice most likely meaning the condenser coil was leaking Freon and that he would have to return the next day or whenever his schedule would allow him to. Lucky for me he was able to return the next morning and diagnose the problem as exactly what we thought that the condenser coil was leaking.
So in order to replace the coil, which can be replaced individually, they instead have to replace the ENTIRE air handler unit because the house is pure electric. This means they have to disassemble the system to remove it, and then reassemble it, in the process, all the Freon that is left in the system from it leaking is lost, and guess what, Freon is $45.00 per pound, so obviously it has to be recharged completely which is about 8 pounds before it will work again, but this FANTASTIC plan, the best one they have, upon having a whole new unit installed, only covers $10.00 per pound, which was the first insult.
Secondly, it took them 6 hours to tell me a quote, when I called customer service (just a guess here, but I honestly think their customer service is outsourced to foreign countries due to the very heavy and almost not understandable accents or dialects) of the customer service associates, first one left me on hold for 20ish minutes, second one hung up on me, third one refused to allow me to talk to anyone else, and NONE OF THEM could find my contract or my quote to get the work actually done.
So at this point I called the contractor back and asked them what my next step was and that American Home Shield had to order the part, so there was nothing they could do until they (American Home Shield) did that. I asked them how long that would take approximately, because know one knows what or how much time this stuff takes, and they told me "no idea" "could be up to 2 weeks". so this is where I am as of today with American Home Shield's Home Warranty process, and will be happy to update any further as we go along.

Never happened. I called today, AHS left a message for the contractor. They will never call back. I will call AHS twice a day for the rest of the week and then file a complaint with the IL Attorney General's consumer affairs office. Who needs an air conditioner during the Summer?
Original review: Save yourself hours, weeks, and months of frustration and do not call AHS. This company is horrific. Customer Service is non-existent, as is competence. You will get the run-around and hear the same story over and over again as if they don't understand what you are saying when in reality they are just not responding to your problems because they don't care. They also lie, repeatedly. Our AC went out on 6/29. They finally sent someone on July 3rd. That person needed to order a part. It took until 7/16 to get that approved by AHS and ordered (no explanation for the delay). Then, I called them 7/18 and they had no update and could not get the AC people on the phone. I called the AC people myself, repeatedly, no one answered. I found on BBB that their license was revoked for this exact reason among others.
I called AHS and asked if they could have another provider handle this issue (it's 105 outside for 3 days). They refused. Then I finally got ahold of the AC people. They told me that AHS gave them the wrong information regarding which part to order. It gets even better. AHS gave them a part for an older heater that they serviced 8 months ago!!!! And the worst is that AHS denies this and refuses to accept responsibility. My husband has asked AHS to send us a copy of the work order. We were not holding our breath for that but eventually it was sent, however, the line on the work order which stated what part was ordered was conveniently blacked out which tells us they know they ordered the wrong part. So now we have to wait an additional who knows how long for the correct part to come in and then for the AC to be fixed.
It's been an additional 2 weeks and we have yet to receive a phone call from AHS and the part has apparently not come in. We call every day, literally, and are told the same story.. that they will call the contractor and call us back. This has literally never happened. So now we are just shy of a full month with no AC with kids and a dog in the house. We have purchased AC units but we are paying AHS so why aren't they doing their job. I have never worked with such incredible incompetence. It is truly mind-blowing. Save yourself. Do NOT use AHS. You WILL regret it. Unless you love calling the same people every day, multiple times per day while trying to do you real job, getting no answers, and living without your appliance for at least a month, save yourself! You are welcome in advance.

Our A.C. stopped cooling and we reached out to AHS. They sent a technician that advised us to pay him $1250 for Freon or pay him $5500 for a new unit in the spot without reporting back to AHS. He also tampered with our other A.C. unit. The 2nd unit, only about 1 year old was working very well, now that is not cooling the same. We called AHS and reported the incident and requested to have a new technician come out. They informed us they need to wait on the technician’s report.
It has been 4 days, without A.C., weather temperature has ranged anywhere from 85-95 degrees. Extremely hot and unbearable and no one is getting back to us. No explanation, no follow-up, We are at their mercy. We had a different warranty company prior and they were excellent. We never had an issue for about 14 years until we switched to AHS this year. Now bitterly regretting the switch.

Every time we call AHS for some repair they can never repair the first time. It happened again today. AC went out on Tues, couldn’t get anyone out until late today. Then of course they had to order a part so who knows when we will have air. Last year it took us 3 weeks when it was in the high 90s. Yes I should have canceled my contract but I didn’t. I will sure do it after this time.

I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend. My recent experience with them was excellent. This is a rental property that I have American Home Shield on, and they tried to get a vendor for me, but everybody was booked. It was a situation where the tenant’s refrigerator had gone out, and the refrigerator was filled with food in the freezer so I really needed someone to get out there quickly to resolve the issue. I spoke with a representative that was very patient and very professional. She’s the one that called multiple vendors to try to see if she could find one to fit me in. She was just fantastic.
They called Rocket Repair and they were also booked. But they heard about the situation and they fitted me in. The tenants said, “Well, they can’t come this morning ‘cause I’ve gotta go to work, but I can get back home around the lunch hour or 2 o’clock..” So, they called Rocket Repair back and said, “Can you all make it specifically around 2 o’clock, and just get there, and try to fix it?” Not only was it a short notice and Rocket Repair was booked, but they also accommodated the 2 o’clock time frame for the tenant. They went over, fixed the refrigerator, everything’s working fine. It was awesome.

I was having plumbing and laundry dryer issues. For my dryer claim with AHS, I submitted it online and it was easy to do. Then it took a couple of days for the contractor from AAA Appliance Master to come out which was pretty quick. The guy was very nice and wonderful. He explained what was going on and got the job done quickly. The piece only cost a few dollars, but the deductible was over priced for a simple cheap fix that took literally five minutes to do. But the dryer works now and I recommend American Home Shield.

When I called American Home Shield, the rep that I spoke to was in the Philippines. But the reps there barely spoke English, and they were reading off of a script. You have to beg them to put a supervisor on there, and they don’t wanna put a supervisor on because they're concerned they're gonna get reviewed for that. They kept saying that no one else can help me but them. But I told the rep that I wanted to speak to a supervisor. It took about an hour of completely requesting over and over again, saying the same thing over and over again. And then I finally got a customer advocate who told me all these wonderful things they were gonna do and then they don’t do any of them.
On the second time that I called in, I finally got someone in the US office, and she had an attitude, saying, “Okay, is that it?” I told her no and that I needed a supervisor because she was not capable of handling what I needed. But she told me that there wasn't one available. I then asked her the name of the supervisor on duty. She told me to hold on, and then put on hold for over an hour. They put me on hold, and then come back and forth, saying that the supervisor was not available. And that she would have to call me back. I got the supervisor's name, but when I asked for her extension number, the rep told me that there was no extension where I can call her back. I also asked them for a phone number for their executive office but they told me they don’t have that phone number.
I've had to call into a supervisor for over a week and I've never had a return call. Amanda is the rep that was supposed to call me back. My service still has not been completed. I had been charged for a service by a vendor that never even made the repair. They came out and lied and left, and then wouldn’t return. And they charged my card for that. American Home Shield sent out another vendor and it looked like that was all gonna work out. But it didn’t. They showed up with the wrong faucet and told me to call them to reschedule when I get my own faucet. It's been a nightmare. I was supposed to get refunded but I never got it. I get notes saying that my account is past due because I didn’t pay the fee.
When I had the AC guy come in, he told me that I was 3 1/2 units short. So I asked him if that meant the AC had a leak? But he told me that they don't worry about it unless it's five or more, so he just put this substance in there that plugs it. But that substance burns up your compressor. So the AC guy would love to put that substance in there so he can come back and sell me a new compressor, which American Home Shield doesn’t pay for, and then they only pay for a certain amount of Freon.
Since I was so dissatisfied with the service, even though I paid for it, I called my own AC person and asked him to double-check my AC and shed light to my poor compressor because the previous AC guy already put this puke in there. They came and I was still short on Freon. So, the previous AC guy didn’t even put all the Freon in there. And that was within three days of him being there. But that was not the worst experience. The plumbing claim was the worst experience.
I was a returning customer. I was giving American Home Shield another chance, but I really wanna cancel my membership. I don’t want to pay to be tortured. No repairs are bad enough, but when I pay American Home Shield to be tortured, that’s really crap. I know 10 people that have nothing but horrible things to say about American Home Shield, and I've been forewarned and forewarned and forewarned. It's horrible. American Home Shield is the absolute worst home warranty company that I have ever dealt with, and would not wish this experience on anyone.

I filed a claim over the phone to AHS for my air conditioning unit. The representative I spoke with was fine. They answered all the questions that I had. The contractor that they sent over was Epic Mechanical. He came in and he got the unit running. But in about three hours after he left, it stopped. And he told me that the unit was 23 years old and that Epic was more interested in replacing it with a new unit than repairing one. And after he went out the second time, I told him I didn’t want him back out to my house anymore because I knew that he didn’t have any interest in trying to fix my old unit.
I was gonna go ahead and replace it with them, but the way he was talking, I knew that he didn’t have any interest in mind to even trying to fix that one. When I looked them up on the Better Business Bureau, he had a lot of complaints. And what they do is when they come out and repair people’s air conditioning, they will ask you to rate them by the time they finish the work. But when you rate them and the unit would be running for three hours after they leave, the unit goes out. I rated him right after he left my house. And I gave him a 5 because they come real fast. They were right on time with the schedule, but the work was just sorry. But I had already rated them. I asked the representative when I called back American Home Shield why do they keep on using them if they have a bad rating with the Better Business Bureau and they do shoddy work and she said, “because y’all are constantly giving them a good rating.”
What I did was, I asked for another air conditioning company through American Home Shield. They sent me Cabot Mechanical. I had a friend that had just dealt with them and they were out to his house about five times before they got his unit corrected. So, I canceled that and I ended up buying a new unit. And then when I called American Home Shield back, ‘cause I thought maybe when I purchased a new unit, that they would allow me something toward the new unit. But the rep said that they wouldn’t because I didn’t go through their contractor in replacing the unit.
I also had a problem with my refrigerator. I had a contractor to come out to fix my ice maker in my refrigerator. I dealt with that situation from February of this year, and they finally got it straightened out around July. Those were the only two bad experiences I’ve had since I’ve been with AHS. Everything else, I didn’t have a problem with. And I’ve been with AHS for a while now.

The contractors that were sent by American Home Shield for our disposal in our sink that was leaking were fantastic. I did the claim online. Once I got logged in, I just hit the button that says, “request service.” And then I was able to use their menus to drill down to say exactly what the problem was. I could do drop down menus that got down to let me say my disposal was leaking. The contractors replaced the disposal with a brand new one and it took them an hour or less.
I’ve used American Home Shield in the past and they’ve been really good, too. But there was one time five months ago where my air conditioning broke. I have American Home Shield, and I thought they were gonna cover because they advertise that they cover the air conditioning, heating, and all this stuff. But if you read the fine print when they describe what they cover as it relates to your air conditioning, they really don’t cover very much. And I ended up having to come out-of-pocket quite a bit. My total repair bill for my air conditioner that time was like $1,700. And American Home Shield covered like $200.
When I went back and read carefully on the website, it said that they don’t cover everything on the air conditioning. So, they didn’t break the law. I would recommend American Home Shield. But I would tell others, “You gotta read the fine print as it relates to your big appliances, like your heater and your air conditioning system.” American Home Shield is not gonna fix an $8,000 air conditioning system just because you’re giving them 50 bucks a month. Still, American Home Shield is a good company.
Hi Jason,
Your feedback is more than appreciated and I hope AHS can correct the issues and complete the AC repairs.

The contractors that American Home Shield has sent out have been fine, though when the air conditioning was done, the guy just checked outside and it was a relay switch. My air conditioner up in the attic should have been checked when I said the air conditioner wasn't working. The line was clogged so I had to pay another $125 for that to be fixed. The tech should have checked everything. Recently my microwave was beeping and Lake Area Appliance came, and my son was here when the tech originally put a new part in. When I went back to the house, the microwave was showing the same problem that the keyboard was out. I called American Home Shield again this morning and they said that I needed to pay again. I called Lake Appliances and they said that I needed to call AHS and tell them it’s a reorder, so I called AHS back, got somebody different and she put in a request.

My dishwasher wasn't working and this had been going on a while. After filing a claim with American Home Shield, someone was scheduled for the repair within the week. Two people came to look at the dishwasher separately and they both couldn't fix it. After I paid for the deductible twice, I told American Home Shield that I wanted somebody who actually knew what was going on. I wasn't gonna pay another deductible until they came out and diagnosed it. American Home Shield sent a third company out. The guy diagnosed it and he saw right away that the motherboard was no good. He ordered a new motherboard, came back three days later and fixed it.
I'm a mechanic. A lot of times, we just have to guess like if we've seen a situation before. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A lot of times, you have to use your experience and that's kinda what the third guy did. The dishwasher was doing something that he had seen before where it was clicking and going crazy. He knew right away that was the motherboard. He was great. Overall, I was very satisfied although I had to pay three deductibles and I feel like American Home Shield owes me for two. But I like American Home Shield. They're pretty good and I don't usually have too much trouble with them.

I used to have American Home Shield a long time ago, then I went to Choice Home Warranty and they were crap. So, I went back to American Home Shield because even though it was more expensive as well as the service call, I hoped that I would get better service. I've only had one experience with them. I called them and I spoke with Mike, the rep, and he was nice, respectful and very helpful. The first contractor took just a couple of days to come out for the AC and he took care of everything. The second one with Crown Electric was a couple of days after that. He came out for the ceiling fan. Now, the lights work but the fans don’t. I called the contractor back and I was told that they were waiting on AHS. They said they have to replace the fans. So, they took pictures of the fans.
The fan in our bedroom is very ornate. There are stone and metal things on it. It has a drop pole and then, it has a light that you can turn on high or you can dim it. It also has a remote control. The fan is wood and very intricate and then, at the bottom, to get to the insides of it, there is a pineapple. I don’t see them replacing this. It should be a Hampton Bay and it should have a remote control because the two in the den are the same way. They're brushed nickel with black blades, and they were purchased for a reason. So, I'm not gonna have some 89.99 special coming into my house.
I called the contractors back and followed up on it because it has been 14 days since they have been here. The lady said they were waiting on AHS. I informed her that when I was talking to Mike, he said that the man was going to take the ceiling fans down, send them in, and then American Home Shield will replace them and send in the new ones, but they would come from the warehouse in Ohio. That doesn't make any sense and it didn't make any sense to Crown Electric as well because they've dealt with AHS and they just replaced the fans themselves. My ceiling fans are still hanging on my ceiling and I’m looking at a dead ceiling fan.
I’m satisfied with AHS but questionable. They had the technicians out in a very timely manner but responding to the technicians and resolving the issue has been much longer than it should be. They even told me when I called Crown Electric that I could go and pick my own fans and opt-out to buy my own fan. These fans were bought at Tri-Supply and they're not gonna have the same model and the same look. It doesn't make sense to me to buy a whole new fan when you can just replace the fan motor. I wouldn't stay in business doing crap like that.

We closed on Thursday morning and sometime before that weekend, we realized that the air unit had stopped working. We had to dig a little bit to figure things out because we still had all the paperwork in the envelope where we closed. I had to find the warranty company information and figure out who to call and work out the details of it. I found the packet of information and called American Home Shield. Customer service seemed great and there were no issues. The person on the phone told me they would have a contractor contact me that day which they did. But the contractor scheduled the time to come and that schedule worked for me.
Myers Comfort Specialists of Birmingham was our contractor. I submitted the claim on Friday and a technician came on Tuesday. We had not yet started living in the house nor had we started the move-in process. Before we were ready to move into the house, the technician named Lloyd had repaired the air unit. He was amazing and we love him. He was really friendly. I got an email at first telling me when he was coming. He called me on my phone a couple of times ahead of time. We've been very happy with some of the earlier things that American Shield has done. Some of them that have happened was we have a very expensive stove and cooker, and the contractor from American Home Shield came in and fixed that. That probably saved us a lot of money. We're in South Florida and we've had somebody come in and fix the main air conditioner twice, and once, in a pretty major way.
But the last time, we were not that happy. Their claims process was poor. There were three different people that came in. There were two air conditioning people then a plumber but none of them could do anything about the air conditioner. There is clunking noise that keeps people awake when they sleep in that room, and it's right behind the air conditioner. The first guy came in, said it was not the air conditioner that caused this and wrote a report saying it was cosmetic or some kind of language that skirts the responsibility of having to fix it.
So I called back and we had a second opinion. I kinda got a little bit of back and forth with the person I was talking to because there's a policy that if a second person comes in and they find out the same issue, I get charged another 75 bucks. The second person came in and did not find that it was another issue. He said it was a different issue but said that it wasn't something related to the air conditioner itself so he couldn't help us. He did acknowledge that there was something wrong coming out of the wall. And bottom line, he reported it that way. I had to make several phone calls.
Eventually, we had a plumber come in. The plumber said he couldn't do anything about it either. The air conditioner is still making a noise and nothing has been done. I'm making a decision now to just pay for it all myself. This one experience was very bad. I get it that American Home Shield can't cover every single tiny thing. Otherwise, they'll go bankrupt. But I don't like the insurance on this last one 'cause I wasted a lot of time in going back and forth. I could have had somebody come in and fix it to begin with.

He was really capable and kept trying until he got it perfect. He was great. However, we were very dissatisfied with the Unified Contractors who did our pool pump. The guy who came out was unprepared, unprofessional, and had no tools with him. He was on my property for two minutes. He came out and looked, and that was it.
I called American Home Shield back and let them know what happened then I filed a claim about having them look back into the pool pump because it was older. It failed two days after we moved in so it failed three days after the warranty was effective. AHS said that they couldn’t replace it because it was too old. The only way that it could be repaired is if I paid the contract company $875 for them to fill in the gaps between the pump and repairing the plumbing that was attached. I was not quite happy with the result and then I waited 20 minutes to speak with a supervisor that was able to give me any type of answer.

The contractor whom they sent was good and after the repair, my furnace has been working so far with no issues.

There was a time when I was without heat for about three weeks and I had to have my central heater replaced. I called and spoke with someone from American Home Shield. After they replaced my heating, my air conditioner went out and AHS's contractor had to come and replace some parts on that. I've used my AHS warranty a couple of times and every interaction I've had with their reps has been pretty good. Their contractors have been good as well. I'm getting ready to renew my policy.

My neighbor had a warranty and I figured I would go ahead and do it too because she was telling me how good it was. I’ve been with American Home Shield for about five years and I have two houses under the policy. I used to call over the phone when submitting a claim but it was difficult to get somebody to answer. I normally submit my claims online now and the website is fine. So far, it’s been working. When we put a claim in, we would be contacted within 24 hours and the contractor would come when they say they would. They would also call me before they come. Sometimes it would be 48 hours, but they usually do it quickly. The warranty is valuable to have and it’s good for people to join American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield right away to get someone to come out to fix the backup issue with our sewer lines in the basement. They sent out Main Line Plumbing and they were great. But they took a little longer to come out than I would have liked. It was only a day but when it’s the sewer water backing up, I would’ve preferred that to be more of an emergency situation as opposed to a standard plumbing call. Other than that, everything has been fine.

About a month ago, Recovery Appliance came in for the washing machine that was leaking. The technician came the next day after I filed the claim and he took care of it that day. However, it just started leaking again yesterday and I’m gonna try to call again. I’m a little disappointed with American Home Shield. We also had some air conditioning problems and stuff, and they won’t replace the units 'til they are unrepairable.

It's the worst experience I've had with a company. I called American Home Shield about three weeks ago to set up a service date for my washing machine. They set up an appointment about a week after the call with this subcontractor that they use called Accord Appliance. When Accord Appliance came out during the first visit, I was telling them that I was having some leakage from my washing machine and showed them where I was having the leakage from. After looking at it, the person said he couldn't do anything about it that day and that he had to go and order a part. He also said they'd be back in touch with me once they got the part, and they'd get set it back up another visit.
They contacted me probably about almost a week later saying that they had the part. They were gonna come back out and fix the machine. They came back out and supposedly fixed it with the part in. When they left within the hour, I set a low end for my washing machine to wash, and I was still having leakage from it. I called American Home Shield back and I told them that the man had just left there about an hour before and that my machine was still leaking. They said they'd have to set up another work order for that company to come back out again and that I should hear from Accord Appliance within 24 hours. This was probably August the 1st. I hadn't heard from anybody so I called American Home Shield back and when I did, they pulled up my contract and wanted to tell me that the service call was canceled.
I asked who cancelled it and they said they received a notice back from Accord Appliance that someone had canceled the call. I told them Accord has never called me and I haven't canceled anything. At that point, I wanted to talk to a supervisor and the gentleman on the call didn't wanna transfer me to a supervisor. We went around the barn forever on that one. He said, "Well, let me look and see if we've got anybody." He left me on the phone for about 45 minutes. He finally came back and said there was no one available right then. I told him, "Listen here, sir. I know you've got supervisors on that floor. I'm going to wind up waiting, and I want someone to come on the phone. I don't wanna be on the phone as long as I've been this last time without somebody coming back telling me what's going on." He got off the phone and put me on hold again.
In the meantime, I wound up calling Accord Appliance. I looked up their address on Google. The other thing that the American Home Shield guy told me too before I called Accord was he tried to call Accord and nobody answered the phone over there. When I told Accord what American Home Shield had told me, they claimed that they didn't cancel the call. They claimed that American Home Shield canceled it. They also claimed that they had gotten a work order again around 6:00 p.m. on August the 1st, and they said that by 7:30 that same day American Home Shield faxed them over something saying that the order had been canceled. Accord said at that point, they couldn't do anything else about it because they didn't have a work order. They said I'd have to contact American Home Shield again.
I called American Home Shield back. They turned around and said they'd send a new work order over and I should hear from Accord in 24 hours. This was on Monday the 5th. The 6th came about, nobody called. Yesterday was the 7th, and I called them back and told them no one has called me from Accord. The guy put me on hold then he supposedly called Accord. When he came back on the phone, he said, "I just spoke to somebody at Accord named Sophia. She should be calling you right back, right now." I got off the phone but Sophia never called. I waited about three hours. I called Accord and spoke to Sophia. She said they got the work order and they got me scheduled up for August the 13th between 8:00 and 12:00. I asked why didn't she call me back right away after the man I spoke to at American Home Shield. She said she got busy and couldn't do it.
I went back on their website 'cause I was disenchanted with Accord by that time. I looked at all of their bad reviews. Most of their reviews on a scale of 0 to 5 were 1 and I happened to read some of them. One of the ones that I read said that they were operating under an inactive business license since May the 1st, 2019. I called the California State Business License Office and I gave them their license number. They sure enough told me that their business license was inactive. They said American Home Shield should not even be using them as one of their contractors to go out and fix people's appliances.
I turned around and called American Home Shield back, and I told them what had happened. I also told them that I did not want Accord Appliance coming to my house because they're operating under an inactive business license. At first, they didn't want to give me another contractor and I know it's because I had already paid my money to them for the service call. I told them I'd report them to the California State Business License Office, to the Better Business Bureau, and to the news media about their practices.
The person got off the line and got a supervisor this time. The supervisor that I spoke to at American Home Shield, Marcus, acted like he was all nice. He said, "We'll I'm gonna grant you this one-time courtesy, and we'll get another contractor by and out to fix your washing machine." I said, "I don't wanna hear about the one-time courtesy mess. It's your fault that you don't know that the people you're sending out have their license inactive. If I ask for something else to be fixed in my home down the road and you send me another person with a license that's inactive, I'm gonna refuse them."
He said they were gonna send somebody else out. He was gonna escalate this up to the contractors dispatch team and I'd receive an email from them stating who my new contractor is and all of that. I got off the phone with him and about an hour or two later, I checked my email. Sure enough, they said they've assigned me another contractor. When I opened the email, it was Accord Appliance again! That's when I called them back again. I was frustrated and said I had spoken with somebody a couple of hours ago who said that they were gonna assign me a new contractor but it's the same people that they have sent the first time.
The last person I spoke to from American Home Shield was a nice young lady. Her name was Kassandra. Once I shared all of this stuff with her, she didn't even escalate me to another supervisor or anything. She wound up putting me on hold. She contacted another contractor named Savvytech, and she got me an appointment set up for today. She gave me the name of the technician that would be coming out. She also gave me his phone number. She said, "This is who you need to contact if you don't hear from them but they'd be out there at a certain time today." That's where it ended.
I'm upset at American Home Shield because I've been going back and forth with them since last Thursday. I'm upset at Accord too. I don't wanna deal with this stuff when I'm paying my money to American Home Shield every single month for my home warranty. I don't wanna have to go through all of this kind of stuff every time I have to get something fixed. I don't wanna go through the customer service representatives who wind up not wanting to pass me on to supervisors, who can't solve the problem, and who lie. Accord was lying or American Home Shield was lying. And American Home Shield is definitely lying in the fact that what they told me they were gonna do, they haven't done. They didn't do it until I finally talked to that person, Kassandra. American Home Shield shouldn't be using people whose business license are inactive. They should know whether or not their contractors' licenses are active.

We had a clothes washer repair done through American Home Shield. I went online and submitted a request. We got the American Home Shield notice by email that said we should hear from someone, and we did hear from someone that same day. Then I talked to him on the phone, and we talked about what was happening, and we scheduled. The contractor was very responsive. And he came out and did an analysis, and said, “Here’s what’s wrong. I’m gonna need to go back to AHS and find out whether or not they’ll approve the repair. In the meantime, I did this to it, which will make it possible for you to use it temporarily.” That all worked out great. And in about two days later, I heard back from him that American Home Shield had approved the repair.
He had ordered the parts, and he would let me know when they were in. About four days later, he said, "The parts are here. Would you like to schedule me to come out and make the repair?” We were on vacation and I said, “Call me in a week. I’ll be back home.” And he did call me right on the day, made an appointment to come out within a couple of days, fixed the washer, and it’s been working great ever since.

We submitted a claim online to AHS because I was going through our benefits and saw that we could rekey the house. We had recently purchased a house in April and finally got around to looking at the warranty stuff. So, I decided to get the house rekeyed. We trust the sellers, but we don't know who they gave keys to. The website of AHS was pretty straightforward. It said I'd be getting a call within 24 hours from them, to schedule an appointment. And I had a call within three hours. So, they were pretty quick to respond. My experience with AHS has been fantastic, so far. They've been really responsive and have lived up to what they said they're gonna do.
The contractor that came was fantastic as well. He was great, very friendly and very knowledgeable. He came out and explained the benefits, looked at what we wanted to do and really provided us with the best options for what was covered. And because we have more doors than were covered, we were gonna have to pay for something so he kinda did the math and poked around and figured it out. He was efficient, really nice, and it all worked out.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a plumbing leak under the kitchen sink. The cold water in to my refrigerator sprung a leak. Doing the claim was very easy. It happened on a Sunday, and NW Sundance Services came out on a Thursday. I was a little bummed about that but I get it. If you're paying cash, I'm sure you can get a plumber out immediately. Still, my experience was great. The contractor did a great job. It was supposed to be an easy fix, and it turned into a little more than he wanted because one thing worked for a second, then it was still leaking. He tried another thing, and then, it still leaked. So he goes, "You know something? I'm just gonna replace this, this and this, and be done with it." And I said that was great.

I was initially gonna do the claim online but I went ahead and called American Home Shield because I wanted to make sure. I didn't know how long it was gonna take for someone to come out to my house. I wanted to make arrangements to work. The lady that I spoke to attended to me and she was wonderful. She said she would get somebody to call me back, gave me a confirmation number and gave me the number of the plumber that was gonna take my call.
Midtown Plumbing was our contractor for this claim and they were good. They came out and explained everything that they needed to do and how they were gonna do it. They said it wasn't gonna take long and they would get me up and running in no time. They fixed the problem. Evidently, the screw had watered out for the handle and they had to replace it. It was really good and there are no more leaks. But I was just gonna call them and question why I lacked water pressure although I think it's because of the line breakages around here. Other than that, things are better now because we don't have to hear the drip at night. Before the repair, we actually put in a little galloon on there. We were constantly getting up in the middle of the night and serving the water wherever we could put it like on the plants.

I had a service call on my (warranty-covered) washing machine. The technician from a local appliance repair company came out and identified a couple of parts that needed to be replaced, and said that this information would be forwarded to AHS. AHS then decided on their own that the machine had been abused/overloaded, and thus the repair was not covered by the warranty. Note that this was a determination made by AHS, not by a technician who physically inspected the machine. AHS thus refuses to pay for repairs to the machine. I'll do that myself, with the money I'll save from canceling the AHS warranty. I absolutely cannot recommend getting a warranty from them: You're betting all your warranty and service call costs on the chance that they will actually cover a repair... Which is much less likely given that such decision is made by an office clerk who is probably graded on how many claims s/he refuses.

I called the next day and the representative scheduled the appointment. This person did not clarify that any solar water heater would not be covered and sent a tech out. I told the tech via text that this was a solar water heater before he came out as well and he did not notify me of any issues related to it being solar and not being covered either (but this is an AHS issue, not the tech). He came and the solar water heater tank was not covered.
I contacted AHS and they would not refund me the $100 that was their mistake. Looking for another home warranty. I didn't ask for coverage of the heater, just my money back for their error. Once, I had an issue with B&L Plumbing and Home Shield said they’ll follow up on me, but I left them before I got any type of resolution. My premium then went up considerably, and my copay went up as well. Price didn’t match service and after two different companies, I ended up coming back. Apart from having to go crunch every month when $113 comes out of my account, everything since I’ve been back has been fine. I told them that they take the money right out of my account every month and they’ve never bolted from coming out and giving the service, but they couldn't get the account in the right name and it's an irritation. But other than that, I've had no problems with them.
Recently, I started to get a slow leak in an older washer. The washer would run, but it had a slow little water leak. I submitted a claim with AHS online and their website was easy to use. It's user-friendly and asks very few questions. It's pretty self-explanatory, too. Then I was told that I'd hear from the contractor, A Plus Appliances, within the first 24 hours to schedule the service, and I did. But it took a couple of days longer to get them out here. They were swamped, so it took them about four days to get out here. And when they got here, they had to order the pump which took an additional week to arrive. In the mean time, the washer was still working and I was able to use it. In fact, they told me that it was not gonna hurt if I used it.
All in all, I’ve had AHS for 21 years and overall, I'm satisfied with them. But I never had to wait that long to get somebody out here. Neither have I had to wait a week for a part to be put in. I saw that A Plus Appliances ordered the part from Amazon, so it could’ve gotten to them in two days. And yet, it still took them a week to get back out here to fix the leak, because they were so back logged. In the end, A Plus Appliances got the job done. They were good and very polite, too. Plus, the tech that came out was great.

They were really top-notch people and business. They had to come back three times because stuff was happening like they'd fix and two days later, it’d go out for whatever reason. But everything's good right now. The AC has been outstanding.

American Home Shield sent out Prestige Plumbing for the shower leak. The shower was leaking when I open the hot water and the tech fixed it three times. He was a nice guy and he did a good job. But every time he try to fix it, it was just the washer. I told him that I didn’t need a washer. I need to replace the part inside because every time he goes, it leaks again after two weeks. It's the same problem. I've called him three times already and he got mad last time. I told him that from the very beginning, the problem was not the washer. The problem is the part inside. It’s the piece of metal that he should change, then that’s it. The washer with the heat is gonna be damaged again, then it’s gonna be the same problem, then I gonna call him back. He said no and that he thinks the problem is the washer. So I recommended to American Home Shield that they send somebody else next time.
When I had an issue with my ceiling fan last year, the contractor that came out said the fan was loose and he cannot fix it because they had to make sure that it was attached good to the ceiling. I told him that the fan is attached good to the ceiling, but it is not working. I ended up fixing the fan. American Home Shield is a good company and I like them. I’ve been with them for almost 10 years and I don’t wanna change it. But every time the technician come in to fix something, they say, “Oh, this is not covered. This is covered. This is not covered.” Or “I cannot do it.” Most of them, when they come into the house, they don’t fix enough, and then they leave all because it’s not covered. It seems like there’s nothing covered under the insurance.

The washer was not draining properly so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. A guy from Premier Appliance Repair came out, took one look at it, and told me that it was a full-sized washer and dryer on top of each other, so there wasn’t a lot he would be able to do. I told him I explained that to them and he said he could open up the front panel and that was about all he would be able to do for me. So I was very unhappy with him. And then when he left, all of a sudden I had all this water in the drain pan below and then I had all those green stuff. I called him back on a Monday and he said he couldn’t get here until Friday. So that didn't work out.
I called American Home Shield and told them I needed someone else and they said I have to have the other person tell them that. So, I called Premier and it was just a big mess. Finally, I got somebody else to come out and he said he was not sure he would report to them. He thought it was probably my bearings and they would have to schedule me.
It has been a month without the washer and dryer. I’m not even calling American Home Shield anymore because unless they say it’s not fixable, they’re gonna try to fix it. The guy says it’s the bearing, but after that, I don’t know what could happen. If it takes two or three companies to come out here because these are sitting on top of each other, I’m just buying a new washer and dryer. I’ve had small claims like a small electrical thing and the toilets when I first moved in and those were fine. But this is the biggest thing and it wasn’t a good experience.

My water heater wasn't producing hot water. There was a small electrical fire with the wires and it was leaking water. I made a claim online with American Home Shield and their website was user-friendly. It was also easy to fill out. But the site was not super clear on being able to describe the issue. There was also the uncertainty of what was going on when you're not talking to someone live. This happened on a Friday night. Aside from my online claim, I also called American Home Shield that night and asked when I would be hearing back. I thought they said within four hours. That kind of threw me off because I didn't hear anything back and I had to follow up on Monday. I ended up having to call in.
I had worked with John on our heating and air previously, but not through American Home Shield. He just does heating and air work too. He told me that he works with American Home Shield too so I recommended that American Home Shield use him if possible. They actually approved that he be the one to do the work on my water heater. I always go online when submitting claims with AHS. I don’t like their phone service. Unless you call at midnight or maybe at four o’clock in the morning, you can never get through. They have to put you on 45 minutes to an hour wait. When the motor in our AC stopped running, I filed an online claim with American Home Shield and they sent out Choice Electric. They’ve been out to check our furnace and stuff like that before. So I had confidence in them. The motor had to be replaced and they were able to fix everything on the same day. And so far, our air conditioning is working just fine.

And then, when he got here, he diagnosed the problem, figured out what needed to be repaired, and the repair was done and over with before the scheduled time that he even had been promised. So, I’m very pleased with their work. Also, the plumber was professional. He was dressed in a uniform that had the company logos on it so he was easily identifiable, presented his I.D. and then all of his paperwork bore its company insignias. So, I was very comfortable working with him.
Usually, I call American Home Shield to file my claims. But this time, I went through the website. And that was definitely a different experience. My son and I had been in Virginia for two weeks because of the passing of my husband. When we came back, we had laundry and I put my clothes in the washer. Everything worked fine. When I got ready to put them in the dryer and turn my knob to start the dryer, the dryer wouldn’t come on. I filed the claim online and it was easy. I got an email then I went back a few minutes later and I saw the claim had already been assigned. Just a few minutes later, the lady at that place called me and went ahead and scheduled the appointment for the contractor. I also really like the website of American Home Shield. The navigation of it is very simple in terms of the quickness of assigning the claim and then putting the information out there so you know who’s calling. In the event somebody wants to get your information and try to screw you over, you know who you’re talking to and dealing with. That’s very important to me.
The guy from Applifix Heating and Appliances was running a little bit late for the schedule but he had the decency and courtesy to call me and say so. He said that prior job had taken him a little bit longer but he was not far out. He explained where he was at. And that meant a lot to me. Then when he got here, I showed him where the dryer was. He had also called, wanting the serial number off of the dryer. He thought he knew what the issue was just by me explaining what had happened. I gave him the serial number and he said he was gonna bring the part in case we needed a timer too. He thought it was just the knob but he said we were gonna be safe about it. When he took the machine apart, he saw what the issue was and explained every step he did. He cleaned the machine out too, which he didn’t have to do, but I certainly appreciated it.
I’m not originally from Arizona so I don’t know that many people here. You never know whether you’re gonna get a good contractor or a bad contractor and they can take you for a wild ride. Just with the communication, I cannot see this guy that came out here ever doing that to anyone, as honest and detailed as he was, telling me exactly what he was doing and what he thought it was. The professionalism of the recent experience was outstanding. My interaction with him was amazing. I'm happy.

My recent claim experience with American Home Shield where Plumbers Inc. came out worked out great. First, I had a guy come out. Our water heater was not working right and he told us that there was nothing wrong with it but that the pilot just wasn’t lit and he left. The pilot went out right after he left. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent out Plumbers Inc. because I had used them before. And they came out and said that the water heater needed to be replaced completely, which was completely different with what the other guy said. And they were on it in a second. They kept tabs with me on when they could bring one out, which took a few days. It wasn’t immediate, but they were on like letting me know what the time frame was, which was all I could ask for. We had to do with cold water for a few days, but it’s okay as long as we know.
When they came back out, they installed it in a timely fashion. It works perfect, and I was very happy with them as I was the first time. When they came out the first time, we had a leak in our ceiling and it was the bathtub upstairs that was leaking. And they fixed that. So, American Home Shield has been great on everything I’ve called them on. They've been very good for us. I was very impressed. My daughter wanted to get it and I was very hesitant because sometimes it doesn’t work out right. But she was right. It was good.

Original Review: July 25, 2019
My air conditioner didn’t work and I’ve been having problems for months. First it was the heater but a different company came out, and they apparently didn’t do a very good job and ended up losing all the Freon out of the system when they were finished. It has cost me a lot of money. So, I re-log a call. Months go by and it was getting warm, and my kids were complaining it was getting hot upstairs. I looked, and sure enough, it was 90-somewhat degrees in their bedrooms. The air conditioner was blowing air, but it was not cold.
American Home Shield sent out different companies but it’s not fixed. The owner of Fick’s Mechanical, Mike, came out and looked at everything. He said the system doesn’t have any Freon left in it because the previous people didn’t button it up tight. That wrecked my outside unit completely. He looked at the main inside unit which was from 1979. He said the whole thing’s gotta be replaced. He looked at the wiring and it, again, was from 1979. It was aluminum and one can’t use them to wire up the blower and the heat exchange units anymore so that had to replaced. They replaced that.
About three weeks went by and I noticed that the air conditioning was not working again. I went online and created a trouble ticket. I made a mistake and this is where my problem with American Home Shield begins. The first trouble ticket for the air conditioner which is the one back in March was for the heat exchanging systems so it’s the same thing. When I opened up the trouble ticket for air conditioning, I went outside and I thought the outside unit was maybe not working. I went on the website to create a ticket, saw heat exchanger and I just put a checkmark and put it on. After that, a guy came out and he did the thing. Then three weeks later, I was not getting air conditioning again. This time, when I went on the website, foolishly, I didn’t think about what I put on the trouble call almost a month earlier. I thought the the air con was not working so I put air conditioner.
A few hours later, I got a call from Fick’s Mechanical saying they got my ticket and they were gonna come out the next morning, 8:00 AM. I called American Home Shield and said, “Hey, they’re gonna come back out. You guys aren’t gonna charge me ‘cause it’s the same ticket, right?” They said they were gonna charge me again. I asked why and they said one is the heat exchanger and one is the AC. I’m not an HVAC guy. I just knew the heat was not working so it was what I put on. They said, “I don’t care. We’re gonna charge $75 or cancel the call, and then you can resubmit it.”
Fick’s Mechanical came out and when they put the system in, the guy told me, “I don’t carry a good system, by the way. It’s new and better than the ones you have which is 40 years old, but it’s a cheap system.” Sure enough, within a week, it was not working. They came back out. The first time he came out, it just wasn’t working. There was a relay switch that was fried. He showed it to me and said, “Look, it’s all black. You must’ve had a power surge or something.” On Thursday there was a big lightning storm and I didn’t notice that it started blowing hot air. He went to replace it then he left. This was around noon on Tuesday.
By 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, my 12 year-old son heard banging around the house. The sound was from the heating itself. I called Fick’s and told them it was broken again. They said they'd see if Gavin, the HVAC guy, could come back out on his way home. Sure enough, he came out at 6:00 PM and said the entire circuit board was bad and he had to replace it. He had to order it and bypassed it so that the compressor would work and we'd have air conditioner. But it’s been a week and a half and I have not heard from them.
My dissatisfaction with American Home Shield goes back two years. I’ve been a customer for 19 years and two years ago they hung me up to dry. They did not stand by me. I had my dishwasher stopped working. It was a pretty minor thing. I logged a call, they sent Sears, and Sears sent a young kid. Through his incompetence and not following procedure, he ended up destroying my kitchen. He said it was this little circuit board on the door and he replaced it. He also said there was something else which was the pump. The next thing I knew, the dishwasher was pulled out on the floor.
When he pulled it out, there was a copper pipe that ran from the dishwasher behind all my counters to where the sink is. It was dripping because it bent as he pulled the dishwasher out. He didn’t know what he was doing. He said it must be mice that chew through my pipe. I’m pretty sure mice don’t eat copper. When he pulled the dishwasher out, he also scratched the floor. He covered it up with one of his corporate moving blankets. When he left, I told him, “Don’t touch it. Just leave it there. I’ll figure out what’s gonna happen.” I’m a single dad with young kids. It’s hard to deal without a kitchen. I ended up washing dishes in the bath tub in the first-floor bathroom. I called and complained, and his supervisor from Sears came out the next day. He took some pictures. He asked if I signed a waiver. When I asked what the waiver was for, he said, “We’re not allowed to pull any equipment out without a waiver because things like this happen.”
I called American Home Shield and they said, “That’s not our problem. You gotta take it up with them.” I said, “Well, okay. But I thought you were in my corner? I thought this is what I’m paying you for, to be my advocate? You’re the middleman between me and some chuck in a truck, right? And if the guy screws up, then you need to play hard ** because who am I? I’m just one guy against Sears.” They wouldn’t help. I ended up getting in touch with their insurance company and it took me 10 months to get any money. I have an almost 30-page document because the insurance company told me they don’t give anything unless I provide for them two estimates for everything that needed to be done.
Getting estimates for each part is hard because nobody wants to come out to replace two boards. It’s not worth it. When I got a plumber to come out to replace the pipes, he said it had to be unbroken piece from the dishwasher where it hides into the house piping. It meant all the counters had to come out which also meant the countertop had to come out. I’m raising hell with American Home Shield for hanging me up to dry and not standing behind me. In the end, the cheapest estimate I had from a general contractor who would handle the plumber, the electrician, the dishwasher, the replacement countertop, and replacing four cabinets was $14,000 in change, which I was told was pretty good for basically half of a new kitchen.
We bought cabinets not put together, had them shipped to the house, glued them together and built them. We did as much of the work as we could ourselves. My total bill was around 11 and they gave me a check for 7 so I have $4,000 out-of-pocket to get my kitchen back working so I’m not washing dishes in the bathtub. Although I’m grateful for American Home Shield being there for the simple stuff, they don’t know how to handle this. I would pay more money per month if they would give me a kind of service and coverage that I thought I was supposed to have. I’m very happy with them, but if there was an alternative, I’d switch in a heartbeat. I told them that it seems I’m a captive or a hostage and there’s nothing I can do. I would like them to stand behind their customers. It’s all I ask.
Dan,

The AC was blowing hot air and I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I find it easier to do it that way. My upstairs AC went out first and it took two days to get the contractor out. Then, the second AC problem was three days later. So, a combination of both repairs took two weeks. My house was built in 2002, so my AC units were original and getting parts for an AC unit that is 17 years old was a little hard. They had to find a compressor that was compatible from the AC folks. Those AC folks were extremely nice, very professional, polite and clean. Everything seems to be working fine but the second AC problem was within 48 hours and I paid another $100 deductible. It was the same issue with a different unit.

We wanted the house rekeyed. It's a new house and we had five different keys for five different locks. The front door, the back door, and then a door to the garage each has a lock. The doorknob and the deadbolt had their own key. I called American Home Shield and they sent New Mexico Locking Systems. The American Home Shield reps were polite and professional. And I called on a Thursday or a Friday, and it was the next Monday or Tuesday before everything got straightened up, but it was fine. It was all very quick. The contractors were very professional, too. They worked very quickly and they did a very good job.

I placed a called on July 18th for my air conditioner. I live in San Antonio, TX so it's hot. The technician said 2 - 5 days for the part and that he had ordered the part. I check status today with AHS, and was told that they ordered the part YESTERDAY, 7/23. They claim they are waiting on the vendor to give them a receipt date. But they didn't order the part until 5 days after I placed the call in the first place! So now I and my wife (both senior citizens) have to be in the July Texas heat with no air conditioning because AHS can't honor the agreement that I have religiously paid for monthly. Getting a supervisor on the phone was like pulling teeth from an intoxicated hippo (very difficult) and the customer services reps just kept reading from their little script (laughing in the background, they didn't think that I could hear them) with no real intent or effort to help the customer.
The thing is, I run a worldwide technical support center, so I know the game that the reps played (which NO ONE on my team does). This is one (if not the) most pitiful examples of phone customer service, and definitely THE most pitiful example of overall customer service. Upon my contract termination, AHS is done. STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!

If I could give lower than one star, I would. I have had nothing but problems with this warranty company and I have dealt with a lot of different warranty companies over the years. This company is by far the worst. This warranty is on a rental property I have that is currently an assisted living/personal care home. When replacing my dishwasher, they refused to finish the install because of the flooring, not to mention it took them 8 weeks to figure out the dishwasher even needed to be replaced. I had to hire an outside person to install the dishwasher after a new one was delivered because the contractor for the warranty company refused to adjust the footers on the old dishwasher and slide it out. I had to pay $200 to get it installed on my own.
The stovetop caught fire and we had an electrician come out and investigate, he said it needed to be replaced. The contractor sent out by the warranty company still hasn't fixed it 20 days later, we just replaced it at our own cost as these people need to eat and we are not waiting any longer. The A/C broke down in 94 degree plus weather and we called in an emergency ticket on a Saturday morning. Well the contractor, didn't even call us until Monday and wanted an additional $125 to come out on that day on an expedited timeframe, we had already paid AHS the $125 service fee, so they wanted more money.
We had hired an outside contractor to have it fixed already anyway because the residents are elderly. Now I can't get AHS to return my $125 despite calling them for the last 2 weeks. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY, THEY DO NOT OPERATE WITH ANY KIND OF INTEGRITY. I have used them for 2 years and have yet to get anything done on a timely basis.

I had the WORST possible experience with this company. During a current heat wave, my AC unit went out, so I requested a service call. AHS said that since it was a weekend, and their first contractor did not work weekends, that I would have to wait 4 days until they could schedule me. I stated that it was 87 degrees and climbing in my house, and was told AHS will not consider anything an emergency unless it is a reported 105 degrees from a weather service. I tried to go ahead, but asked the AC company to wait on scheduling, while I tried to get AHS to schedule a different service provider to provide relief, but was told again and again (by AHS), I would need to wait 4 days.
I asked my AHS operator many, many, many times, to speak to a supervisor - and was denied, every single time. The operator would not help me, and only repeated herself over and over again... despite me asking to speak to someone else, she would not allow me to do so - she simply put me on hold, then returned to say the same thing to me again and again. Then she said she contacted the service provider and booked my service for 4 days out - which was still terrible, but I was stuck, so accepted it.
Well, today was the day the company was supposed to come out to service me, and no one came... So I called, and they said they did NOT have an appointment - so not only did the AHS operator prevent me from talking to any type of supervisor, she lied to me about booking my service, and actually did nothing. I had to book my own service today, and it put the call out 3 more days - meaning, an entire week will pass before I get any help at all, and it is 100% AHS's fault. This company completely abandoned me when I needed them most, and I couldn't be more unhappy with the complete lack of customer service I received from their obviously offshore, and disinterested call center.

I have been a AHS customer for 1.5 yrs & am currently going through a nightmare scenario. First let me state that I live in central FL, which suffice it to say is hot in July and I’ve had A/C problems since Apr. But now I am experiencing the “perfect storm” of AHS contract technicalities. As background, my A/C stopped cooling in Apr, 2019. A tech from World Class A/C was dispatched 4/19 & concluded the cause was due to lack of refrigerant & added 3 lbs. A/C again stopped cooling in May and AHS dispatched another World Class tech who on 5/25 concluded that there must be a leak due to low refrigerant level. After searching he found a pinpoint leak just outside the air handler. He returned on 5/28 to repair the leak and added $500 worth of refrigerant (10 lbs). On 6/20, same cooling problems arose & I submitted a 3rd service request the next morning (7/21).
At approx. 4:00 pm that same day, I heard a pop sound from my circuit breaker panel & all power to the house went out. I called AHS to generate a new service request & due to the emergency nature (i.e. smoke emanating from the breaker panel), AHS was very helpful & OK’d an emergency dispatch. That evening a tech from R&R Electric was dispatched and eventually discovered that the A/C breaker burned up and therefore made an assumption that it may have been caused by something related to my current A/C problem. Note, he did not state this as fact, but the theory seemed credible & on 7/22 he subsequently submitted an authorization request to AHS for panel replacement with that assumption.
Today, 7/24 I called AHS for a status of that electric authorization request to find it hand been denied for the following reason: the breaker damage was caused by the “caused by other system” (the A/C) & therefore not covered in my warranty. I then spoke with “Ace” in the AHS escalation dept. He told me that because R&R electric stated the possible cause of damage being related the A/C itself & not normal “wear & tear”, they denied the request stating the A/C company will need to come out to address the breaker panel issue.
Here are my problems: 1) The internal temperature in my house is and has been 86 degrees for almost 72 hours; 2) I’ve delayed the A/C dispatch knowing that the breaker problem had to be resolved before the A/C tech could investigate that problem. 3) A/C tech will not arrive until 7/26. 3) As I argued with the escalation dept. just as with the electric tech, the A/C tech will not be able to definitively determined that the breaker issue was caused by the A/C. What happens then regarding my coverage? Am I stuck waiting several more days while that’s worked out while I swelter in the central Florida heat (I’m retired and cannot afford a lengthy hotel stay).
Bottom-line is, no technician, A/C or electric can know for sure the cause of the breaker failure. (I’m not an electrician, but in my mind if a breaker doesn’t simply trip off, it has failed, which means “wear & tear”.) I have therefore instructed R&R Electric to initiate the process (i.e. secure permit & materials) to replace the breaker panel as required and can only hope that AHS cease this game of words (i.e. “wear & tear” vs. “caused by another system”) will resolve this matter by covering per my home warranty. And my hope is that AHS will reach out to offer assistance as I see they do on the other negative reviews on this site. And finally, yes I am very angry about this whole unfortunate experience and if resolution is not reached to my satisfaction, I will pursue other means via BBB & possible legal action while I ensure I share AHS’s horrific handling of this matter on every “reviews” website I can find.

First, let me say I am a realtor at a prominent real estate company, and up until this month, I have always recommended to my clients they should seek a policy with AHS. That my friends, has come to a CRASHING halt! On July 4th I placed a service request for my kitchen refrigerator/freezer that quit working. It is now July 23rd and it still does NOT work! They have lied to me regarding no request for replacement being made, when I have in fact requested 3 times as well as the repair company that has been out to my home 4 times now, put in a request for replacement of the unit twice.
Each time I call, I am treated rudely and I have been a customer of there's for over 25 years now. I requested a tracking number for the new parts that had to be ordered and they refused to provide it to me, when last week, the "correct parts" were ordered, I was given a tracking number and guess what, the part had been delivered to the repair company at the beginning of the week, but did not bother to contact me to come out and replace (still doesn't work) the part until the end of the week. It is forecasted to be 110 degrees here by the weekend, I have NO refrigerator and my daughter just had surgery and her medication has to be refrigerated!
They are telling me now, the "new" parts will be in around the 30th, then I must schedule with the repair company to come back a 5th time to try these parts. AHS will not provide me with a tracking number. Said it is confidential, so I have NO idea if the parts have even been ordered, because of the trust and faith I have lost in them, they may not have even ordered them yet! I am disgusted with the LACK of customer service, especially when they have received over $17,500 of my money over the past 25 years! I am in contact with my attorney to see what can be done! Please customers, read ALL reviews about this company before you purchase a policy!
Good Morning Karen,

My husband ended up calling again to get someone else to come out and they want us to pay another $100 service fee. We asked them why, since the first person they sent out couldn't take care of the problem. We were basically told that's not their problem it's ours. We kept getting placed on hold when we tried to escalate the call and they would just leave us on hold for half an hour to 45 minutes each time. My husband made 6 calls today and was left on hold for a minimum of half hour EACH call. In a nutshell we not only paid for the warranty, but an additional $100 for the first service call where the problem was not fixed.

That was 11 days ago. Nobody has contacted me since. I have called everyday and nothing has been done. The representatives are so rude. They hang up and never call back, I've been lied to on every call (they have the diagnosis, then they don't). You're on hold for 10-30 minutes and if they come back it's another bold face lie. We had a problem with a smell of burning underneath our sink in the kitchen, and we weren’t sure exactly what it was, but we wanted somebody to check it out. We thought it was something to do with one of the appliances having something internally going wrong. So a plumber initially came out since it was all dealing with water, and found out that it wasn’t that. It was a cord burning at the outlet. So American Home Shield sent out an electrician who solved the problem rapidly, and did a few other things that we didn’t know was a problem to prevent future problems. So, we were quite satisfied with the end result. Considering that they had to come out and troubleshoot the problem to find out exactly what it was since we couldn’t identify it, I was very pleased with their overall response time and the quality of the work that was done.

The first claim I made to American Home Shield for a pool pump issue was through their automated system. That process was simple and convenient. The pool pump guy came out the same day that I made the claim which was awesome. He was very nice and very quick. He fixed the issue. The second time around, I made a claim for my gas furnace with a representative but then she seemed to have difficulty understanding what I was saying. I had to repeat myself a lot and I had to rephrase things. That took a little bit longer than I anticipated.
It took like three or four days for the technician to get here and he was not the greatest. He blew nitrous through our system to clear any blockages of water and get the gas flowing properly. When he did that, he blew it into our living room and made a big mess. That made the house stink really bad. He then said that he should've blown in the opposite direction so the mess would go outside. Now, I’m just wondering how trained and professional they are if they don’t know what the proper way to do the job is. Also, he had to order a part. Currently, we have an appointment scheduled for him to come and install it.

American Home Shield's claims process is mediocre and their secondary follow-up could be improved. We had a washer that was insured through them and they continued to send the same guy out five or six different times. He never fixed the problem, and it ended up being a six-month, opened claim. Finally, AHS sent a second guy out who said that our washer was not repairable. Thereafter, they got as a new washer.
Even so, I had to explain to AHS multiple times that their initial contractor wasn't fixing our issue. The only answer I got was that we have to allow him to try to fix the problem which was ridiculous. It was also ridiculous trying to get to the supervisory level because on more than one occasion they gave me excuses of the supervisor wasn’t available and dealing with other complaints. However, I had another issue with the people who answer the phone for AHS. I had an oven issue and I called to see if it was covered by the insurance. The lady whom I spoke to said it was covered and that they were gonna send somebody. That time, I had already specified what was wrong with the oven. The glass was shattered on the inside and AHS sent a person to write it down when I already said that to them. Once AHS sent that person, they said it’s not covered, so I ended up paying to get the oven fixed and also the $75 deductible fee. I called to complain, but the person said that they had to go over the recording, and they were gonna get back to me within 48 hours. And up to now, it’s been four days, and they haven’t called me back.
Additionally, I have another issue with AHS' salespeople. I have five different homes that I have insurance and they told me they were gonna give me a discount for the $75 deductible fee with the people who would showed up. They didn't give me that discount. When I asked them for it, they told me that I had to call back the salesperson. It’s bad communication, and I don’t know who decides what. I’m really irritated because sometimes, I could get through them, but once I do, it’s not the right person. So, I don’t know who to call.

The lady from AHS who answered the phone told me to call the company 'cause AHS didn't get the authorization. I have called AHS in the past since we've had the warranty and when I call them as a customer, I don't expect to have to wait hours for someone to answer. But I had to wait, more than one time, for up to three hours, and that's not acceptable. But recently when our air conditioning stopped working, I was able to go online and put the service request in. And this time, someone contacted me promptly, so I didn't have any problems. But we have numerous complaints with American Home Shield as a whole and we're extremely unhappy with them and their customer service.
One time, we had to move out of our home because we had sewage coming in and AHS said that they couldn't find anybody in the area. So they had to send somebody from an hour and a half away. Then, the contractor would take several days. I even had to pay for that bill myself then submit it to AHS to get reimbursed. We also had contractors that said they wouldn't work with American Home Shield. All in all, AHS as a company is lacking in how quickly they give you the help that you need, and how serious they take your claims.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for the dishwasher and Sears, the contractor, took a couple of days to come out. The interaction with the technician was fine and the quality of work was excellent.

I filed a service request online for my dishwasher and it was either my third or fourth time calling in about that same dishwasher since I’ve had the plan. Anyway, Majestic Appliances came out two days later. They were punctual and the service was good. It took them one visit and it was very simple.
Good afternoon Tiffany,

The fan was running when I turned the air conditioning on, but it wasn’t cooling. It was very hot here and we were using fans, which didn't really take the place of cool air. The claims rep that I talked to was very well, very efficient, and professional. American Home Shield told me to expect a call from Metropolitan Heating and Air Conditioning within 24 hours, which I did. But they couldn't be here in 24 hours. It took two or three days for them to come out, which was fine. The service representative was absolutely very professional, very pleasant, and informative. He was very nice to meet and work with. I directed him to where everything was and he fixed it pretty quickly. He was very pleasant talking with. He nailed it down really quickly. He replaced a couple of small parts, and it was up and running. The air conditioner has been running well ever since. I was very, very happy to find a company that was so efficient, professional, and pleasant.

I submitted a claim to service my dryer. It was making a high-pitch squeaking sound that I could hear upstairs. I was out of town when the contractor did the job. My wife was there, and she expressed satisfaction with the way the job was done. The problem was diagnosed and checked. The dryer has been working well. I’m highly satisfied with American Home Shield.

The spring on our garage door broke and Precision Door Service came out and replaced it. It was just a service call. We couldn’t believe it. It was really nice. We had filed the claim over the phone and as far as our interaction with representative, there were no issues, problems or disappointments. Within a couple of days, someone was scheduled to come out. That was soon enough for us and the technician was really great.

My garage door wouldn’t open and there was something wrong with the motor. I called AHS over the phone and the rep I spoke with was helpful. She took my information down and said that the contractor would contact me online. I asked if I could call them and she gave me the phone number to call. She asked me to wait for about an hour, so while I was waiting, within 45 minutes, the people called me and set the appointment up for the next day. The guy was good and he knew what he was doing. I told him what was going on, then he came in and he checked it out. He said that there was something wrong, so he got up and took the unit apart. I also looked at it and one of the circuit boards was bad.
Then he came back and said that he didn't have the right board. He had the board that was for one light but I had two and he said that if he put that new board in, I wouldn’t have the one light, so I said I preferred two. So, he went out to his truck and said that he might be able to repair it. He soldered a new diode in it, came back and put it in, and it worked fine. The performance has been great since then. Overall, I’ve never had any problems with AHS. I’ve been with them for a long time and when I call in, go online, and do my work, they have somebody come out. And everybody would come out and take care of my problem.

Someone moved out of the house so I wanted to rekey my doors. I realized I had American Home Shield so I went through there. Once I called them, I scheduled and told them what day I preferred for the contractor to come, and they came out the day I wanted to get it done. The locksmith was professional, courteous, on-time, and efficient. It was a perfect experience. That was my first experience with American Home Shield but I'd be calling them for something else really soon. I'd recommend them.
