We submitted a claim to American Home Shield for a dishwasher. Someone scheduled the appointment, and they came out. The contractor was okay. He said that it was something in the door thing, and he readjusted it. He said, “Just be careful closing it.” But it's not working again. They thought they had it fixed, but a week later, it went back out. I reached back out numerous times. I went back in and did a resubmission, but it didn't work, so it wasn't gonna be like another $100 charge. The status has been to contact the contractor, and that has been since 8/30. I've been calling, and I finally talked to somebody today. They said that the contractor would reach out to me in the next 24 to 48 hours to reschedule. I've been trying to get this second appointment rescheduled. It has not been very good.

The people that take the calls at American Home Shield sometimes don't understand what you're saying and it's hard to get it across to them. I told them that the dishwasher worked, but when it would drain, it would drain out into the sink. The drain was coming out of that top knob from the sink and it would come into the overflow. When the repairman came, I told them, “It's the overflow, it's coming out.” He said he was the wrong person. I needed a plumber. I called back immediately to say that they didn't understand what I said and that dishwasher was working but the water wasn't staying in the dishwasher and draining the way it was supposed to.
My husband googled it and solved the issue by him getting down there and fixing it. But when you're 70 years old, it's kinda hard for us to get down there and do that. I called American Home Shield back and told them. It's like you're talking to someone up in the sky. They don't listen to you and I was very aggravated. For some odd reason, all of a sudden, once a week, something's breaking down and that's never happened before. I'll be on the phone for an hour and a half trying to get ahold of somebody. Then the lady came back and said she was still trying to get ahold of Sears to get my money back. I told her they paid Sears to come out here and I shouldn't be getting my money back from Sears. I should get my money back from American Home Shield. She put me back on hold. It was a two and a half hour call with her to try to get my $75 back because they didn't send the proper personnel.
I would not recommend American Home Shield to a friend. In fact, my sister-in-law was gonna get American Shield and with all the problems that I've had, she is discouraged now herself. The service though when the contractors come out is excellent. But the other part, trying to relate to what you need is very hard and tedious.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield when we had an issue with our toilet. Their plumber from Prime Plumbing Services came the next day. He was on-time and professional. He finished his part but because the leak had caused some damage downstairs, we had to go with somebody else after that. Still, he was really nice and gave me good information on things to watch out for as a homeowner. He gave me his contact information to let him know if there would be issues with his work. Now, everything is working fine.

We had a refrigerator issue. The water wouldn't shut off. I wanted a particular vendor instead of the first one that AHS sent. So I called the company and the contractor came rather quickly. He saw that we needed a part ordered and then when the part came in, he came back and installed it. He only had to come once, except the second time, to put in the new part and everything is working great. We've had him once before when we had a dishwasher issue. He was very knowledgeable and very courteous. I like the fact that he texts or calls me to let me know the time he's coming. He also wore a mask. American Home Shield is prompt. The reps are also courteous and they send knowledgeable people.

The website of AHS was very convenient. The contractor called within a few hours after I submitted a claim. He was great. It was the second time he’s been to our house, so I felt good about him coming in. It's much better now ‘cause the attic fan was making this loud noise. It was so loud, you could hear it outside. He fixed it really quickly and it’s working perfectly.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

I have a circuit breaker that was defaulting. The contractors came out, checked it and made a couple of changes to it. It seems to be working well now. They were masked up and necessarily took their shoes at different times. The service of American Home Shield is fine. The only issue I have is they tell me I can use the online, but I've had a problem getting online to place an order. So I just called in. They get a lot of calls right now, but once I got in, they did a pretty good job of taking care of what I've asked for.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The way that the drain was originally set up, it went into the ground outside instead of having a proper outlet for it to go. It was almost buried in the ground ‘cause there's some vegetation around it, so it got blocked up. I did everything that I could at the unit, so I couldn't understand why it was blocked up like that. The guy from Bencraft Mechanical went out there and adjusted the PVC pipe and put a different drain head. Now it's filtered out above the ground so it won't ever get backed up again. He was really professional and he was wearing a mask. It took him about 30 minutes to fix it. Bencraft was perfect.
I'm having an issue right now with my ceiling fan and that's been dragging out so I'm a little upset about that. It has nothing to do with American Home Shield. It's the company that they contracted out to come and fix it. The gentleman that came out thought it was a capacitor and it took him a week to find another one. That didn't work, so then he said that he’d just replace the fan. I have a 60-inch fan and they said that they couldn't replace it with the same type. The only thing they could do is give me some sort of refund in place or give me a 52-inch fan. The room that the fan is in is a large living room so the size of it is perfect there. But other than that, I haven't had any issues. I’m still happy with American Home Shield.

I have a busted pipe and the contractor is still fixing it but they are good. American Home Shield has been good so far. If I have any issues, I usually just call them back and they follow up with it. I haven’t had any problem with them. They have good customer service. They’re usually prompt. By the time I hang up up, I have a message from somebody who's gonna follow up.

Our recent claim with AHS went well. They scheduled me, but we were waiting on the part to come in. It was about six weeks. Hers and His Plumbing found out that the faucet was still under warranty. So, we had to contact them, which AHS didn’t, and that was a big problem. I figured they should have contacted Pfister, the faucet company. But the technicians came in and fixed it in a timely manner.
Once I had my AC went down and they didn't get that fixed. I had to call an outside person to come in and fix the frame on the unit ‘cause they said they couldn't do anything with it. Also, they got newcomers that’s getting the same service as we got, and they’re getting it for a lot less than what we get it. AHS needs to do something with loyal customers, like a discounted rate. We pay a $78 service fee and the newcomers, now, they pay $40. My wife also had filled out for gift cards. But she hadn’t heard anything from them.

The one side of the house, the air condition had stopped functioning. There was something wrong with the circuit or wire that needed to be replaced and fixed, and that was it. It was a wiring issue that had worn out and disconnected. ARG Going Green was able to fix it that same day. We like the convenience of being able to call and get the service done quickly and in a timely way, and a good job is done. And if it can be fixed, Home Shield fixes it. If it needs to be replaced, they replace it. It's convenient to know you get reputable people out and be taken care of well.

I've been happy with American Home Shield so far. Luckily, they've been able to cover everything that I've had an issue with. I haven't had to use them that much, but every time I've done claims, I've done it online. I've only talked to the whatever company was coming out to fix it. One time, I went without AC overnight. The technician from Air Design said that it looked like somebody may have messed with my wiring, but it was hard to understand him. He had an accent, and he was wearing a mask (he had gloves on as well). I repeated it back to him. I said, "You think somebody messed with my wiring?" and he was like, "Yeah." It didn't make any sense though. Who would go into my AC unit outside and mess with the wiring? Apart from that, he was able to fix the issue.

We love American Home Shield. We recommend them because it is the best safety net you can have for a house. When filing claims, we either make a phone call or hop online and give the information on the website. We usually have someone out within 24 to 48 hours. We never had a problem with having to wait. The only problem we have, and this isn't related to American Home Shield is, due to COVID, the parts that they're needing for things aren't being timely because they're coming from China. So it's not a Home Shield thing. They've had guys come out here. They've done what they told us they'd do. They were timely on their responses. Everybody that they've ever sent out has always been professional. They've been on time. If they say they're gonna be here at a certain time, they're here.
The contractors are also really good lately. They try their own workarounds too lately. Especially with the refrigerator, our icemaker hasn't been working, the guy who was here said, "I just wanna try this to see." He made a second trip out to our house. We have nothing but positive things to say about AHS. We even made sure that our son who is renting his house put it as a stipulation for his renters that they had to get American Home Shield and have the protection plan, so that he didn't have to come out of pocket for any large items.

It was easy to submit a request for my AC, but then they are still in the process of fixing it. A-US Air of Texas came out, put in Freon, and it helped, but it didn't fix the issue entirely. I had somebody else come out today and they're still trying to figure it out.

I had two different people come out there. When the first one came, I wasn't home and my auntie was there. The guy left a little note telling me what I needed and I called him to clarify what was going on, but he got all smart and rude on the phone. I didn't know what happened and I was trying to figure out what was going on. He told me that if I didn't like whatever he'd seen, I could find somebody else. The next thing I knew, I got an email from American Home Shield saying that somebody else was gonna come out there.
At another time, I called in because I paid the whole first year and never had a claim. Now, it’s my second year and I'm paying all this money again, and my appliances are all right. They ain’t broken down. When I submitted my claim, I spoke to a couple of different people and there was one person I couldn't understand the language. It wasn't good English and I had to really listen and pay attention to see what he was saying. The other people were fine though. They told me they’d get on it and get people out, which they did. They did everything. Other than me not understanding, I could hear them. My dishwasher was broken and all the buildup up in there was nasty. It was terrible and the contractor said, “You know, this ain't repairable. We’ll see if they'll give you a dishwasher.” So far, nothing has happened. I haven’t heard back from American Home Shield or anybody about any of my repairs.
My experience has been terrible. First of all, I've been waiting a couple months to get my stuff repaired. Second, I don't know how they select the people that they got working for them and they need to re-evaluate that as well. The contractors are rude. The last people that came out were the plumbers. On the first time, they rescheduled my appointment, and then I never heard anything from them. I had to call them and see what was going on. Once they came out, I didn't hear anything else for three weeks. My water and ice maker had to have the tube run downstairs and hooked to my cold water so that it’ll work and that was something the plumber had tools for and didn't do. He told me, “Oh, yeah. We need to hook that up. We’ll do this, we’ll do that.”
The plumber never came back to do any of it and he told me he was waiting on me to call him, but he was the one doing the work. I didn’t like that part. How am I supposed to call them when I didn't know what was going on? The plumber didn't say when he was coming back and if he could fix it. It's my understanding he had to contact American Home Shield and then they would give him the okay. I called him, “What's going on?” He said American Home Shield only covered 250 and then I was gonna have to come out a couple hundred myself. I said, "What?" and he said, "Yeah". I then said, “Well, why didn't you call and let me know? I've been sitting here waiting.” The person I talked to then said, “I thought I called you.” He thought he called me and left a message? Come on.
Good afternoon David,
I am sorry to hear that AHS has not provided a suitable resolution at this time. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

My garbage disposal wasn't operating and was making weird noises. I went online and found AHS's website easy to use. When I sent out my claim, their system automatically sent back the contractor that has been assigned and a notice that I should expect to get a call from them. The techs from Plumbing Specialties sent me a text regarding their date of arrival and the time they were gonna come. They got to my place on time and they were professional. The disposal has been working fine since then. I'd definitely recommend AHS.

I had some work done on my air conditioner and the process was fine. I called the automated line, put in what the prompt said then it gave me a phone number to reach out to a particular vendor. It also told me that I could use the online service thing to do that. But I prefer to talk personally, sometimes. I didn't want to put my claim through online in case I had some questions.
The contractor came out and did the air conditioner. When they came out, they repaired it and it worked for a day. Then it broke down so I had to call back and they came back out very quickly. It was efficient. They made some corrections and it's been fine since. Initially, when I called out to get my air conditioning service, it was a different company. They came out and just looked. They didn't check for what I wanted them to check that's why I ended up having to call back again because that first company didn't do what they were supposed to do. The second company was fine, but the first company was terrible. They were in too much of a hurry to be concerned about anything. Other than that, everything is fine. I've been with American Home Shield for 10 to 15 years and I would definitely recommend them to a friend. They've always done a good job when I've called.

High Priority Plumbing and Services came out for the water damage as something happened with the main line. They're always good. They've had to come out here a few times for different things. Those guys are always nice, very professional, efficient, and quick. I also submitted a service request for pest control. American Home Shield provided me the number and I usually have to call the vendor first. The number for Terminix wasn't working so I called AHS twice because they couldn’t locate another number for Terminix. When they finally got Terminix to call me, it was from the number I was calling but for some reason, I couldn't call to the number. They could just call me.
Then the lady told me that somebody would be calling me or they would set up an appointment, but I never heard from them again after that. I was charged the $75 service request fee for them to come out but they never came. I just haven't gotten around to calling AHS. Overall, they get people out as efficiently as possible and they use some of the best people. It's been a great experience. American Home Shield sent out a tech and he said that there was a compressor issue with my one of my AC units. They went ahead and ordered a compressor. The compressor was backordered for however long so they offered me a cash-out of $500 saying I could go buy my own compressor and fix it however I wanted. I called in a different tech and he said it was not a compressor issue but it was just a pipe. I also called a third person and he agreed with that statement so I had it fixed. It seemed like the first tech was not fully qualified. He diagnosed the problem within a few minutes whereas the other techs took a good 30 to 40 minutes to look at the issue. The first two techs were from the same company while the last one that fixed the AC was not. I then sent in my receipt in to American Home Shield order to get reimbursed for the $700. Since the repair, the AC has been great.
I also have an issue with my refrigerator. Sears came in, diagnosed the problem, and ordered all the parts. But because of COVID-19, Samsung is not able to provide any compressors for at least two months. We are waiting on one more part from Samsung and after that is done, Sears will come out again and go ahead and fix the refrigerator. That process took a month and a half. I'm already a month and a half in so far. Other than that, it's been pretty good with American Home Shield so far. Everything on their end has been fine.

That was my fourth time to submit a claim with AHS and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. Their service had been timely and efficient. The repairs were done the first time the techs came out, too. My refrigerator stopped working and the technician came out. He noted all the parts that needed to be put on the refrigerator, and he ordered those. It took about a week longer than what he said for all of them to come in, ‘cause it was three separate parts. Then I had to schedule it and that took another week. The technician explained to me the reason it took a week is because he was off sick with COVID or something. He finally came out, and they repaired the refrigerator. Did not need all the parts, sent whatever one of them was back. Then he found out that he needed two more parts and ordered those. He had to make a second return trip to repair those. When he was out here he broke one of them, so he had to get one from a parts place. It was a very difficult part for him to put on, and he broke it twice. But he finally got it put on. It's making a funny noise, but it's working. He was a very nice, young man, and he wore mask.
Originally, I was very satisfied with the repair service calls and the technician, other than the fact that it took so long to get it repaired. But my refrigerator is 10 years old, and I can understand that it took a while to get the parts because they had to locate them on a refrigerator that’s old and they did finally located them. I was lucky that I had another refrigerator in my garage which is an older one back when they made better refrigerators. That was still working, so I was able to put a lot of my things in the garage refrigerator. But I lost a lot of food because of it being out. It stayed cool for a few days before it finally went all the way out. So, we were able to eat up some of the things that were in there, like vegetables. But we lost a lot of things that were in jars.t. But other than that, the experience was fine.
Now, I have called five times and I'm not happy about my air conditioning. I've had the technician come back out, but it's only because I called the company that was working on it to begin with. American Home Shield never called me back with a response on my questions and that was very difficult. I sat on the phone an hour waiting for them to answer the phone, and then I finally left a message.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. We are working to improve the overall customer experience. Thanks for your patience during this process.

The nice thing about having American Home Shield is it's a standard procedure. I call them and I tell them I have a problem. They schedule a repairman or a technician, the technician contacts me and makes an appointment and arranges to be here. They come out and fix the problem. It’s really a wonderful thing.
I definitely recommend American Home Shield. I'm a senior citizen and I have health problems. I am just unable to go out and round up contractors and repairmen or things having to do with the house. So we have a super deluxe coverage program that covers everything. It is expensive, but the alternative is sometimes when you call people, they don't even return your call. It’s hard to get electricians and plumbers and people like that. I've tried it before and they didn't even return my call. AHS is worth it.

It took us six months for a resolution after repeated visits from the appliance repair shop but finally it was resolved successfully and happily.

My husband called the claim for the oven the first time. The technician said that he adjusted the oven. He thought I was being unreasonable or something. When I called AHS for the second time, I waited on hold for about an hour. Then the technician came out and changed the heat sensor. Eventually, the oven got to the right temperature. But whenever it dinged when it was supposed to get to temperature, it wasn't to the temperature and it still took another 5 to 10 minutes to get there. So I'm still not sure if what they've done has fixed the problem.

We had two toilets that were leaking. One wasn't seated properly and one was visibly leaking. Initially, it was hard to get an appointment. I was scheduled for the plumber but my issue was dropped because it was the end of the day. They ran out of time and never showed up. I was not informed that they might not make it if I'd be having a service call at the end of the day. It'd be helpful if American Home Shield could work more closely with the contractor to advise on a timeline 'cause I was having a hard time reaching the contractor and finding out when they would be coming out.
I called American Home Shield back and explained what the issue was. The plumber from Tom Melton Service came out and he helped me by sealing both toilets down to the floor. He said there might have been some subfloor damage that we needed to look at working on too. The plumber told me that was only allowed to fix what was on his ticket and that was the way his company was supposed to respond. That was pretty ridiculous that he was not able to fix the thing that I reported because I didn't mention exactly what was wrong with it. The website didn't give me the option to really customize what I wanted to say.
Using the AHS website was a little bit frustrating. The way you can request service on there is a little bit restrictive. I can only choose one problem for the toilet and my problem has to be cracked, leaking water, making noise, a mechanism not working, not filling, not flushing and other. But the 'other' option doesn't even give you a box to explain the problem. You can only request one problem for the toilet. I have to report exactly what the problem is according to the guy and I can't do that if there are two problems.
The contractor was very professional and very reasonable. He did his best to get the toilets working. Despite the different issues, he did a very good job. He might have missed one thing and that was the tank not emptying every flush. He seemed to think that it was the fact that the toilet was clogged going down. But it seemed like the flapper in the tank was not staying up long enough. I was a little bit frustrated that it wasn't looked at.

It was about 100 degrees outside and the air conditioner wasn't working. When I called American Home Shield, they said that a company would give me a call within two days and let me know when they were able to come out. But then Benak's Heating & Cooling called me within a couple of hours, and their tech was able to come out. They were actually on within eight hours. They were good and professional. The experience was quick and painless. The AC has been doing well since the repair.

Filing a claim with American Home Shield is simple. You can do it online or you can call in. I've done it both ways and each way, it was kinda like just giving your account number, tell them what you want, and they schedule you an appointment. Everybody that has been sent has been professional and knowledgeable of whatever they're doing. They come pretty fast and take care of the issue and I haven't had any repeat issues. They come and fix it. I don't have to call that particular company for that particular reason anymore. The only thing is I was trying to get a receipt for the work done and they weren't able to provide me with one. They should make sure that the customer can receive a receipt because what had happened was I needed a receipt to show my water company that the repairs were done.

I had a backup of the water in the drain pipe and the contractor came later that morning. He checked everything out then went ahead and used the compressed air to make sure the line was completely cleared out and it did good. He did check the airflow too. For the most part, American Home Shield is good. I've had good luck with them. But for specialty items, a lot of times, they don't have people who understand what you're talking to them about when you call in. What I've learned is you just have to ask to speak to a supervisor and that causes that service person to be nervous because they're graded on that.
I had a claim for a water heater that has a heat pump on it. I ended up having to have somebody else come look at the issue because it's a specialty item. A part of it is a plumbing problem with the water heater and the other part is kinda like an air conditioner unit with a compressor and a heat pump on top. They would send one then they'd send another and we never got two of them together. Three or four times we did that on each discipline before we got to it. Finally I got ahold of a supervisor. I had tracked down one person in Austin who knew about how to work on those and they had him come out and fix it then they reimbursed for the charges. It just took me forever to get that. The other thing was a Whirlpool tub. I had a problem with that claiming because it was a walk-in tub and they didn't cover it. It was so silly. They ended up finally covering that up too but it took a long time to get that resolved.

The tech told me that the tank wasn't filling up with enough water and that was the problem for it to suck it on down. So he adjusted that and fixed the problem. Then we tried it to make sure that it was gonna continue to work. He was very professional, nice and cordial. Everything went great. So I'm satisfied. When I call AHS, somebody answers. When I need a service call, they have been very prompt about it. So I appreciate that.

We had some lights and outlets that had no power. I wasn't sure what was going on, so I called American Home Shield, and I did the claim via their website. It was easy enough. SJDI Electric came out. The guy that came out was super, seemed very knowledgeable, and he was able to figure out what was going on in a matter of 15 minutes. There was the loose wire out of the breaker box. Everything's working normally now. My wife would go in and out the garage door every day. So, having to go out and manually open the garage door versus being able to use the garage door opener certainly saved some time and energy.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my kitchen faucet. I did it online and I immediately got which company would be sent out and their phone number in case they didn't call me. But the contractor called me and we set up a time when I was gonna be home. They came by and checked it to see if they could fix it. They realized they needed to have a part ordered so they did that. It took about a week but once the part came in, they called, set up the appointment, came, and fixed the faucet. The service people were very courteous, polite, and helpful.
I am very happy with AHS. They have been awesome for me. I have had a few things replaced and fixed in my house and there has been only one time I got someone that I didn't care for. AHS is not using them anymore or at least they haven't come to my house. I mentioned that I was unhappy with who they sent and I never got them again. That worked out.

Ark-La-Flow Plumbing fixed the refrigerator after two and a half weeks. When the guy found the error, he did good. He had to order a part but they were so busy it took them a week to even come out. Luckily, it was still freezing. But that was the big problem. It was freezing up on our refrigerator freezer so I was having to take the backplate off the inside of the freezer and take a hairdryer and manually defrost it.
We've had issues in the past on getting stuff repaired. The biggest problem I have is American Home Shield changed the value of the freon on the AC unit. We have an older unit and they keep piecemealing. We had a new condensing unit put in and within a year and a half or two, the part failed. What really made me mad was the fact that it was a manufacturer's error that caused the freon to come back out of the very unit. They wouldn't reimburse that. The unit comes pre-charged. When the part failed, the pre-charging left. I should have at least got the same thing back again and I didn't.

American Home Shield is not very expensive and they take care of the appliances. If you have to get them replaced, they are pretty accessible to get that done. They are pretty much timely based on the fact that they are not in the community here. They are pretty good and I would recommend them. I had a problem with one of my electric lights that impacted my garage lighting and my basement lighting, which runs on the same line. I called AHS and the claim process went well. A tech with 1MD Electric came a day after the call. He was professional and he wore a mask. He fixed the fixtures and the problem that was going on with the line. When we turned on our AC, it was not cooling how it used to. At one point, it stopped and wasn't working. That was about two weeks ago. When we called American Home Shield, MS Services came and they fixed the AC. But we are still having the same problem. This is happening when the weather is in the three-digit number, 106, 107, 108. We have a two-story. When we turn the AC upstairs and downstairs, only one of them will work. Only the one upstairs will work then the downstairs one will not cold up more.
I thought of calling to complain but I said to just leave it and I'll monitor it. If it continues again, I will let American Home Shield know. The AC, especially the downstairs one is not really cooling the way it was. Maybe it's because last week the weather has been really hot in California. It could also be that too many people are using the AC.
Another thing is I want to see improvement in American Home Shield's answering service. When you call them, it takes forever to get them. You can stay on the phone for almost an hour for somebody to talk to. But when something happens, they always send somebody to come and check. For that, I credit them. They always send somebody as soon as they can get somebody.

I had a little bit of trouble getting in touch with the contractor for this more recent appointment. They were assigned on Monday and I spent a couple of days trying to reach them but I couldn't do so by phone. Their line was always busy or disconnected. Eventually, I did manage to get in touch with them on Wednesday. But I was a little bit panicked until then because I couldn't find a way to get another contractor assigned or to otherwise reach them. But it did all work out in the end. There was another claim before that for rekeying and that went pretty well. I just had to fill out a form online where I selected the kind of service I needed. That went pretty smoothly and I received an email later saying a contractor was assigned and they'd be contacting me to schedule an appointment and follow up from there.

American Home Shield has been wonderful. When I had trouble with my refrigerator, the technicians that came out for that did wonderful jobs. The first time it was for the ice maker in the refrigerator that had frozen up. The tech froze it and had to replace something on it. Seven months later, my ice maker that's in the freezer stopped working so someone came in and replaced that. Nine months later, the same thing happened to my ice maker inside the refrigerator. I had some condensation where hot air was meeting cold air in the vents that were coming out of the ducts in the attic. That issue never got really resolved. The people that came out were great, but the issue appears to be on the margins between the categories that were provided. So I had somebody come out and said that our attic fan was busted so we needed an electrician. An electrician came out and said that it was not busted but we needed insulation. So in this case, there wasn't much of a resolution.
I'm a big proponent of Home Shield. I’ve been bragging on the program for quite a bit to people. It's just the last couple of things that haven't worked out. I don't necessarily blame on Home Shield on the ductwork thing. It was just a weird problem that exists in the margins between how they categorize things. When my dryer broke, that one actually did frustrate me from a standpoint of Home Shield because in order to get anything moving to the next level as far as replacing the dryer, I had to call. If I didn't call, nothing would ever happen. A tech came out and confirmed that my dryer was busted. The parts didn't exist anymore. So I got an email with this button if I wanted a new dryer from AHS. So I pressed the button and it said that it was ordered. It also said that somebody would be in touch or l'd get it in 10 days.
A week and a half passed by and I didn't heard a peep since I got the email. I finally called AHS and they said that nothing was ordered. So I asked them to order me a dryer. I called again and found out that it was all backordered and it was gonna take four months or something. So I asked them to give me the money. Then they have the bones to say that the receipt to this email address. I got a new dryer in hand but I would have to call them just to make sure that they would be sending a check. Overall, my experience has been very good but the need to call them is more than it should be. But whenever I do get through to people, they always help me out.

Submitting the claim to Home Shield was simple. I've done three now, and usually, I would get a notification saying that, "The company will contact you." But I didn't get that was Atlantic Repair and I called them a few days after I submitted this claim. I had to schedule the appointment with them separately. But usually when I work with Home Shield with everything else, and they do the work themselves, it's great.
I had Atlantic Repair come because my fridge broke and they needed to order a part. The man told me it would be three to five business days, but it took over a month. That specific company was one that I didn't want to use again. And when I called to complain to Home Shield, I kept calling and emailing the actual company itself but nobody got back to me. So, I thought the only thing that I could do was call Home Shield so that they could maybe try to contact. The person on the phone definitely did his job, but it felt more like a script rather than, "Oh, well, that's a bummer. Let me try to get on it as soon as possible." And then, I didn't hear anything back when they said they would call back. The whole process took over a month. They ended up replacing the part that needed to be replaced. I just wanted it to be done because it was such a frustrating process.
When I had a man come and check on my air conditioning, that was super nice. I would, hands-down, have him come back and check on everything if I could. It's just frustrating when they contract out because it makes you lose a bit of trust in Home Shield when they contract out to a company that sucks so much. But everything that went through Home Shield themselves was fantastic.

I've had American Home Shield in a previous house that's why I requested it again for this new home. Recently, our thermostat stopped working. My boyfriend went up there and found that the condensation was building up so it probably shorted out the board ‘cause it got wet. But it looked like it had not been flushed in a while and it needed to be flushed. I'm glad we had the guy from Comfort Pro ‘cause he flushed everything through.
There was also a filter up there that they hadn't changed since 2015 but we found out from the guy that came that it really doesn't need a filter since we have filters throughout the house. It was good to get it flushed out. It was worth it to have somebody go through and clean that all out. He also seemed pretty knowledgeable. The only thing is if you have a couple issues and you need two different contractors to come out, you have to pay them separately. I had two things that went bad at the same time. It would’ve been nice to be able to pay just one charge. But all in all, it was a good experience with American Home Shield.

I still have another schedule 'cause the problem has not been solved. I don't know what exactly it is. The first guy came and snaked it but he had to come back a few hours later 'cause it started backing up again even after we tested it for a little bit. He snaked it again with a different snake and it ran fine for a couple of days but it started doing the same thing again.
It took about a week and a half for them to come back out which was last week. He snaked it again but it's still backing up. We've been checking our other drains and nothing else is backing up except for that sink drain. He said he had to get the manager out this coming week. My wife wasn't too impressed with the guy that came out this week. At this point, American Home Shield could improve on how long it takes for them to dispatch folks. With stuff like backed-up sinks, you have to wait quite a few days to get a situation resolved 'cause there's one contractor that does this whole area. Then, they would give us up to a certain price and then we would have to turn in the invoice to get it refunded. So, my husband called to ask about it because we had to get this microwave.
The one that we currently have is a new replacement itself. We had it for maybe a year and a half before it started to cause those problems with wires shorting out. This was a new one and the one we had prior to that was giving us issues. My husband called to ask them about it because we didn't do that process last year as far as us having to purchase it. Basically, we have to purchase it and then send them the receipt, and they’re gonna pay us back. Not a big one like the one that we have over our stove but just something that we could use while we were waiting on them to come and assess it. The other time that I've requested for work to be done in my house, I was not really pleased with them. I called in, something for plumbing, and it literally took them a week to come to my house for a drain that wasn't draining in my kids’ shower. The guy from Realty Rekey was very professional, and he took care of everything. He maintained a good social distance and kept his mask on when he was in the home at all times. He probably handled the whole rekeying process in about 15 minutes. It was great. Filing the claim to American Home Shield was fine. I did it directly through online. American Home Shield is great.

American Home Shield has a rekey service which I took advantage of. That was a good thing. Recently, the garbage disposal wasn't working. It was jammed. Service Contractors Plumbing came in and fixed it. I did the claim online and it was simple. But when you call American Home Shield's toll-free number, you are put on hold for a very, very long time. Also, the description of what's covered is lacking. I had an issue where the electrical wiring that leads to the doorbell was damaged so I figured that would be covered under electrical. But they said it wasn't.
Thanks for providing your feedback.

I've been trying to get ahold of the person at AHS. I sent him another request for a plumber. I left him two messages - one on Friday at 4:50 and another today at 10:30, but I have yet to hear from him. I find the interface extremely difficult to use because it's all automated AI. It's very hard just to pick up the phone and ask what's going on. I got told to go online and look at my thing. But I already did and I had already paid my $75 and I have a plumbing problem. I don't know what to do if the person doesn't respond in 24 hours. It would be helpful to know. Other than that, I had an appliance claim and the tech from Arno who came out was very professional. He figured it out and fixed the problem. He was as in and out. It was great.

Warranty companies have this thing where I get parts from their contractor. AHS should have something different and let me add more to whatever they would pay for the part needed so I can get what I want. Still, their contractor DrainGo did really well for me. I had to have one faucet repaired in a shower and a piece replaced inside a tub.

The AC was making a terrible noise. It was vibrating and we found it terrible, but it was kind of funny because when the tech from Rice Heating and Air Conditioning got out there, a piece of cardboard had fallen into it. It was an $85 learning experience. As far as American Home Shield, we had quite a wait time on the phone, but that's understandable right now with the Coronavirus. It takes about half an hour to 45 minutes. We've had good repairmen. We can do nothing but compliment on the guys that have come out, especially with the fact that they've all worn masks. We're senior citizens, so we insist on people to wear a mask when they come in, and nobody gave us any lip about it at all. They were all very agreeable and cooperative.

We cancelled our contract with them because our air conditioner broke July 8th, both of our systems in our house. In September, we finally ended up paying for it ourselves because they couldn't find equipment for our downstairs unit and we paid 3,950 to get it fixed. American Home Shield is giving us 1,700 because that's all they said they would be able to give us because that's what they could have repaired it for. After waiting over three weeks for that particular unit, in the middle of August (our house was at 90 degrees), they said, “Well, we're sorry. We can't find the equipment.”
All of a sudden, when we paid for it, they came up with a ridiculous figure, $1,700, which 700 of it was labor. That meant that they bought a heat pump outside and an air handler inside for $1,000, which doesn’t even seem realistic. They also told me that they didn’t have to do the same type of equipment, brand, or quality we have. They just had to match the 2.5 ton and a handler that matched it, which, to us, was not adequate. We’re not happy and now, we’re still waiting on our payment and the refund when we cancelled the thing. We also had to pay to get that air handler put in for our upstairs unit.
They replaced the heat pump outside and then, the inside air handler blew from the new equipment putting so much pressure through the old air handler. We haven't heard back if they're gonna pay for that yet, but we had to pay $1,600 to have that replaced so we can have air conditioning. We wrote a letter to the Better Business Bureau and we got a letter from them yesterday that American Home Shield replied to the them. Their side of the story isn't anywhere near where ours is, but it's irrelevant. We're done with them. We're done with all home warranties. I don't think any of them are fair to the people that need them.
Good evening Kenneth,

Submitting claims was pretty simple, and I've had good responses. The first time I called, the contractor never called me, and so I called American Home Shield. They said they couldn't have that so they contacted another contractor and that person called me right back. So, it was not ever on American Shield's side. It was the contractor.
I've had three calls into them. The first one was for my air conditioning system, which the contractor said would not have been covered by my policy, but I liked him so much I had him do what needed to be done. It wasn't broke. It wasn't functioning properly. Then the second time was Rod Plumbing came out and replaced my garbage disposal. Wasn't even an hour, and that he came the day after I had put a claim in. The third one, Rod came out again. He discovered that there were little screws in the garbage disposal, which he said wasn't covered by American Home Shield, but he fixed it and didn't charge me anything. He got the screws out.
I only have my major things covered, my electrical, my plumbing, and my systems like my hot water heater, my heater, and air conditioning. I do not have my appliances but I think when my renewal comes up next year, I might add that on too. So far, so good, and American Home Shield has been great to deal with. I told people that I have them.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

I did a plumbing claim online through the Home Shield website to have a faucet fixed in my shower. The company called me right away to make an appointment and then the tech came out. All of that was as expected. He was prompt and courteous. He encountered a problem when he got the shower taken apart. It was so old and when he went to put back one of the plastic pieces on, it broke. So he went to the Moen place and called me. He kept in touch with me all day as he was trying to figure out if he could get a part for it or how he would fix it. He ended up finding what he needed and made another appointment. He came out again and it was great. Home Shield has been a good investment so far.

Addison came out and he was spectacular. He knew what he was doing. He told us what we needed and fixed everything on the spot. He wore the shoe covering and his mask. He asked if it was necessary for him to wear gloves but I told him, no. There was a short circuit breaker that he said that was probably at least 10 years old that needed to be replaced. It would fail in the next couple of years. So he replaced that for us and fixed a couple of the sockets that were not wired up correctly. It was all good. The first time that we used American Home Shield, I had some plumbing issues and I was kind of wary about them. But this second time around, it really got me on good terms with them.

The circuit breaker needed to be fixed. Originally, I got electricians to check the place and then they said it needed to run two lines and they needed to replace the thing in the garage. Then they told me it was gonna cost around 3,000 bucks. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent MC Electric. The service guy found one failing that was why the lights didn't work in that area. So, he replaced it. The light doesn't flicker anymore. Everything now is in a good condition. I also wanted to upgrade the fridge because we are a big family. We need a big fridge. I asked AHS, but they said, "We just fix the broken ones. So when it gets broken, you get a new one, but it's gonna be the same one." Overall, I like American Home Shield. It's recommended and our experience is really good.

I work from home and one day, I'd gone outside and I came back in, it was about the same temperature inside as it was outside. Then I got an alert on my phone because I have these electronic thermostats and it said that my air conditioner had been off for four hours. I went and checked and did everything I needed to do to see if there was anything I could fix. At the time, I couldn't get it to come back on. I called AHS and set up an appointment. All these thermostats have these little remote sensors and one of the batteries had gone bad. It wasn't telling the air conditioner to come on. The guy came out and he was knowledgeable and went through my air conditioner. He found a part that was just about ready to go bad and replaced it. I had a good experience this time with them. It hasn't always been that way.
I had an issue where I had a leaky pipe in the bathroom wall. Of course, sometimes, they couldn't get right there. So I had taken the wall down, looked at it, and I found what the problem was. Then the guy showed up and walked in my house and said that there's mold and he couldn't do anything. He turned around and left and AHS said they were gonna charge me $100 for that. They ended up refunding me my money after some arguments. I ended up doing the repair all myself because they said they couldn't deal with mold. They came back out a second time and they still said they couldn't do anything. I had abated it and it was fine. They had also recommended me to a another company to come out and they wanted like 12 grand to abate a space that was in my garage, about 4x4 feet. I felt there was some collusion between companies there. But other than that time, they've taken care of what they said they'll do.
AHS has upgraded where we can put in our orders online. They have done some stuff since I've had them which has made it easier. The main thing is the scheduling of the contractors. Sometimes, they can't get anybody out for a week. And it's your house. There are some things that can't wait a week. Just make sure you get information on what you want covered and what each plan covers 'cause they have different ranges of service. If you want your air conditioner covered, make sure that's in your plan.

Making a claim with American Home Shield is a simple process. But with my AC unit that stopped working, there were some issues getting a company to come out because it was during the heatwave a couple of weeks ago. During the heatwave, it was like 115 degrees. I had to send my family out of town and I had to stay to endure the drama of the heat because I had to continue working. American Home Shield didn't send out someone as soon as possible, which I kinda understood because it was definitely a time that people were calling because of the heatwave that was going on. But it was frustrating at the same time.
American Home Shield should make sure that they understand the severity of each claim. They should have a better understanding of what needs to take place and the urgency behind it. If an AC went out during a heatwave or a heater went out when it was was really cold, there should be understanding of what steps a company should take in order to rectify the situation as soon as possible. They should place themselves in the position of that person or that homeowner and what they're dealing with, especially dealing with the AC that went out during the heatwave. No one wants to endure that. With my claim, South Placer Heating and Air came and they did a good job. It was a quick fix. But coming a week and a half later after the heatwave is not what I would want anyone to deal with. Even last year, I had the same issue as well where the AC went out.

I did a claim to American Home Shield for my AC unit. The process was very simple. I went on the app and selected that I needed service. I told them what the issue was, paid my deductible, and it wasn't even five minutes later when I received an email and a text saying that it was assigned to a company. Then I got a call from whom it was assigned to and they came out the very next day. The phone calls, the emails and the texts were all within 20 minutes of me submitting the request.
The contractor was incredible. He introduced himself. I met him in my driveway because I have a dog and I wanted to make sure that my dog was put away before he went into the backyard. He had on his mask, kept his distance and asked me what the issues was. He had to come in to look at my actual unit within the home, and he checked all of that. He told me what I had. My unit isn't that old so I was a little thrown off by it not working. He confirmed for me by saying, "Yeah, I can tell this is a newer unit." He gave me information on it and even showed me little things on it that I didn't know anything about. Then we went outside. He walked me through all the steps he was going to do as far as checking on what the issue was. He found the issue very quickly. It was an issue that I could have corrected myself. He showed me how to do it, but he did it himself.
He said, "But you can always call us if you need any help." He was very informative, nice and professional. He was supposed to be here between 2:00 and 4:00. He called around 3:00, he said that he finished a job earlier, and asked if he could come earlier. That was perfect because it was a very hot day. Overall, I can't stop singing the praises of that appointment. It was great.
Even though I have the coverage, I feared calling because I dreaded being told they wouldn't be able to come for a week as if I had called a normal AC company and said, "Hey, my air is out. And it's a hot day," and with COVID, thinking it was gonna take a long time. I was so surprised by how quick, how timely and how easy it was. Being a homeowner, you expect the service on your home to take longer since you don't have a "maintenance person". I felt as if I lived in an apartment and I called the maintenance man who lives two doors down.

The refrigerator is not working. I lost everything in it. GE tried to fix it, but they didn't have the part so they gave us an ecard at Home Depot. I like the service from American Home Shield. I called them before and I really didn't have problems getting service, and I didn't really have problems getting service this time other than I waited for about half an hour on the phone. But on follow-up calls, I had to call them six times. They sent me something and I accepted the ecard and they said I'd have it in 24 to 48 hours but there was nothing. When I finally got ahold of them barely 24 to 48 hours, I got to hold them 72 hours later, after holding for an hour and 45 minutes. They told me they had sent me the ecard. So they sent me a letter acknowledging that I accepted the ecard.
I waited for another 24 to 48 hours and I called and sat on the phone for another hour and 40 minutes. It was a long time. Then the AHS rep finally asked for my email and she would send it to me now. Their customer service was terrible. I know it may be due to the pandemic and all, but they're not the only ones. At this point, people are hiding behind it to stop the service to their clients. As a matter of fact, I'm debating whether I'm going to renew with them.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the GE that we had was around 3,500 and I settled for 2,100. Apparently, AHS usually has their own supply but they've run out and unfortunately, so has Home Depot. It was a disaster. The refrigerators are backordered until October the 8th and I have little to no confidence that we'll get it on October the 8th.

South Valley Appliance came out for my refrigerator and it didn't go very well. They said the part worked, and then came out, and then it didn't work again. This is the third time the refrigerator has gone out for the same part. My first claim was back in October. I lost all my food three times and I was not too thrilled. Then I just had them come out to fix the back refrigerator. The guy unplugged it, but he ended up unplugging also my freezer 'cause he had to get back there. And I lost everything in my freezer. I don't wanna lose money on food. It gets expensive after you have to lose so many times. So, it was not the best experience in the world. I reached out to Home Shield and all they told me was that it was a past contract and there was nothing they could do after three months. It's really frustrating because my refrigerator keeps breaking down for the same part over and over again. So, it's not a new problem every time.
I'm not really thrilled about American Home Shield. I've had other claims with them with my washing machine. I thought they’d eventually replace it, but they kept coming out. I had nothing but problems. It seems like they'll fix something and then it just breaks apart again and it's the same issue. They would say that it was just cosmetic, but I'd tell them that something broke at the bottom. They were just waiting for it to break on me and it finally did break. I finally had to get rid of my washing machine. It was so loud and it finally broke to the point that you couldn't even use it when it was only doing a spin cycle.

When I submit requests, they get canceled by Home Shield for some reason but I never authorized the cancellation. So, the order will go out to the third party that is supposed to come to fix the item. For example, I submitted a request for a garage service, I called the company that Home Shield sent me the email on, and they said, "Oh, Home Shield canceled that," but I never canceled it. I don't know who at Home Shield canceled it, but someone there canceled it.
Furthermore, I can't get everything done one stop by just going on the site and filling out the forms. Because once you click one thing it doesn't let you click multiple areas that you need your fixes for. And I should be able to bundle, under one co-pay, items that are related. That part is troubling because online, I can't do that. And then, I'm forced to sit in a very long queue and talk to someone who doesn't understand what the request is due to language barriers, and they're not willing to listen and hear it out. I can tell that Home Shield is onshore, but the people that I've had problems with are all offshore, and I can tell that they are.
When I called about the garage not being fixed, there were two cases that were open, one for Applied Air and one for the garage. The young lady I spoke with said, "Well, this is no problem. All American Garages, they can fix the issue with..." No, it was an electrical thing. There were three things. Applied Air had to be bucketed separately, and I knew I had to pay a separate 75 for that. Then the other two were supposed to be together because they were all electrical.
All American Garage handles garages and the representative told me, "No, no. All American Garage can do electrical work." I called them. All they do are garages. And everyone knows, if you specialize in garages, and it's called All Garage Repair or All American Garage Repair, you're not gonna do wiring internally inside of the house. Maybe wiring with the garage, but not inside the house on a lighting fixture. That kind of back and forth was frustrating because I tried to explain to Home Shield they specialize in garages, but they told me they do electrical work. And then after they put me on hold forever and they find out, "Oh, no, no, no, they can't do electrical work." "Exactly. I just told that. It's common sense."
The contractors are fine. I feel a little annoyed that I have to remind them to put on booties when they come in people's homes. Putting on the booties is not really doing all that much other than keeping the mud that is on their existing shoe off of my floor and carpeting. But if they have used those same booties at other people's house, they still drag whatever germs on their booties throughout my house. I have to make an extra purchase of my own booties to make them put on my booties when they come in my house. But the quality of work is fine. All the people who came to do service, besides the minor instance where I had to say, "Hey, do you have booties on?" That's just the standard protocol, even before COVID, to not traipse through people's houses with your dirty work boots on.

Absolute Comfort did excellent quality work on an 8-yr old AC that had a leaking coil. They fixed it and I was quite happy. They were a very good company. I had a prior claim with American Home Shield for a toilet and I was very upset. The tank behind the toilet cracked and began to leak. When I filed a claim against it, the contractor came out to look at it said it happens all the time. The toilet itself was good, but the tank was bad. They had to replace the entire unit and they went and got the cheapest one they could find. I bet they didn't spend 100 bucks on it. It pissed me off that American Home Shield doesn't go back with the same amount and the same quality equipment. I even offered to pay any difference. I could've gone down to Home Depot or Lowe's and bought a better toilet than what they put in.
I got hit with two times $75 because American Home Shield charged me twice to $75 service calls, one to come out and analyze the problem, and another $75 to come out and replace the toilet. Because they would only do white and mine's almond, they said they were gonna have to charge me extra for the color difference which they did. I was pretty pissed to the point where I nearly canceled my contract with them. The toilet is working but the wife hates it. She wants me to go replace it with something that's of similar quality to our home because everywhere else, we've got high quality fixtures in our bathrooms then we got this cheap toilet now in the guest bathroom. She's pretty upset about that to the point where she's probably gonna make me swap it out.
I've had American Home Shield with a previous home I had in Cyprus so I've been working with them since probably 2002. There was probably a five-year gap when I was based in Singapore. I've been paying 50,60 bucks a month for six years and that was how they were gonna treat me. I don't think I need a home warranty if that's how they're going to treat me. I could take all that money and go fix the thing myself. It was pretty nasty. I sent American Home Shield an email with all my comments, and nobody's gonna call me back on that 'cause that's negative feedback.

I like the usability and the trust of, "Hey, if something breaks, we got a warranty." My water heater was not working, so I did a claim online. Conklin Plumbing came out the next day to fix that and it went really well. They were timely and they went above and beyond. They installed the first part that still didn't work, but they were able to solve the issue. They got the water heater fixed and I had the hot water that day.

American Home Shield has been good in the past, but the ability to get ahold of them is just atrocious and I'm thinking of switching to something else. I waited an hour and 45 minutes and still didn't get anybody. I wish they would do something about that wait. Have them call back or something. I had a garbage disposal replaced and it took 12 days to get the guy here. I had also referred a friend, and they sent the person to her. They called her first, and she had no idea what it was about, so she cancelled it. When I didn't hear from him in a couple of days, I called them back on Sunday. Even after that, the guy came out a week later (Thursday).

They said they couldn't repair the microwave. I was told to call somebody and talk about getting a new one, but I cannot get through the line. They're also not open on the weekend. I still haven't been able to get in touch with the people. Overall, as far as getting a repair, the experience was excellent but trying to get an item replaced was awful.

When Bestway Mechanical came out, they fixed the tank inside of the commode. But a couple of days I went out of town and when I came back in town, I noticed the water was running very, very slow. I thought it may be in the neighborhood so I checked with my neighbor. There was nothing the matter with his services. There was water pressure. So I called back yesterday and requested them to come back out and look at the plumbing system. They gave me a time between 8:00 and 12 o'clock. I figured they would give me a two-hour window time but they gave me a four-hour time just to be here at the house to wait for them to arrive. They haven't showed up yet so I'm still waiting on them. It's kinda tore my own schedule. I had to take the whole day off work.
When they were here, they did not come in with a mask on. I work for Public Health so I know what they were supposed to do before they come in anybody’s house. As for the customer service, it was pretty good, even though yesterday, I had to wait on the line 55 minutes to get somebody on the line to talk to them. The last time I called them, I had to wait on the line a long time too. But once you get in contact with them, they were pretty expedient as to what they needed to do.

I had two claims around the same time frame. I went online to my American Home Shield to submit the claims and it was super easy. I love working with them. I just tell them what’s wrong, pay $75 for my service fee for the service call, then they assign a company. For these claims, I needed to get the ice maker and refrigerator fixed, and the first company that AHS hired was Nana Appliance Repair. They were the worst company I've ever come in contact with and I put a formal complaint in with American Home Shield for them.
Initially, I called them because I didn't hear from them at first. I told them that I’d like to get on the books immediately and that I have tenants living in the property, so I had to get things done ASAP. They gave me the next day, 8:00 to 12:00 window, but when 8:00 to 12:00 came the next day, the gentleman didn't show up. The technician called me and said he was sorry. He said that he was not available at that time and that they overbooked him. So, he needed to come out the following day. At that point, I lost 48 hours.
Then, the day that he was supposed to come out, he said that they didn't give him enough information for him to get to the property. So he just didn't show up. Then after I told him that that was completely unacceptable, and that this was an emergency as people at the property didn't have water, they put me on a 45 minute wait. They're outsourced in another country, so you have people from India that are answering the phone because it was 2 o'clock pm, which was ridiculous. But it was a very horrible process.
So I contacted American Home Shield and said I would not work with this company. I told them that I needed them to hire a different company, and they did. The guy came out the next day and he fixed the issues within five minutes, so I really had no problem with the second company, AZ Refrigeration Company. That company was great and the second guy that came out was fabulous. All in all, some of the third-party companies that American Home Shield call aren't the most professional. I know that's how home warranties work and I understand why they hire who they hire, but unfortunately, for me, I was unsatisfied with that first company that they sent out because they were so unprofessional.

The temperature on the freezer was not regulating properly and it was making a loud noise. So Lucas Appliance came out and fixed it. The problem was that the fridge had been unplugged and to be able to properly know what the issue was, the tech said that it had to be plugged in for 24 hours. So he fixed what he thought was the problem and told us to call him back if there were any other problems. So I did and he came out again and fixed whatever else was the issue.
The claims process with American Home Shield is pretty simple now. You can make appointments and stuff online. But I had a couple of emergencies where I had to call my own company and have them come out and do it because I couldn't wait for 48 hours. Overall, just make sure to go over the plans and know what you need coverage for and sign up for the proper package.

We had a problem with our refrigerator. We called and made a request to have a repairman come out and we paid the service charge. AHS sent me an email with the vendor. I called his number and left a message. He called me and came out the next day, first thing in the morning, and took care of it. He said to call him back if we had any difficulty. Some of the same things came back again. He did all the testing on the refrigerator and said it was operating as it should. We think what happened is that the refrigerator is quite close to the front door and we had excessive heat in this season of over 100. Then the things that were close to the freezer door were not solid. We had popsicles and things like that and they got mushy. Now we moved the things from the front of the freezer to the back of the freezer and that seemed to solve that problem. Plus, we turned up the degrees.
Also, the lights on the refrigerator were out. He said that the bulbs were loose and he tightened them. It was on for a day and the next day after that it was out again. We could call the guy, he's warranted the work, and he would come back out. He was very friendly, very professional, and came out right away. We didn't have to wait a couple days to get scheduled. We were happy with the outcome.
The one before that, we had a plumbing claim. The pipe wasn't exactly broken, but it had a hairline crack in it and it was a hot water pipe so it caused the leak which caused mold on the outside of the drywall, which is how we became aware of the fact that it was leaking at all. The plumber came out and had to cut open the wall, which made a huge mess. Then we had to deal with finding somebody to come and repair the wall. That was a little disconcerting, ‘cause I expected the plumber to repair the wall, but they didn't do that. Other than that, it went fine. The plumber took care of the leak in the wall right away so that part was smooth. The rest of it was a little bit wonky, but that was because we weren't prepared with the next step. We had to make those arrangements ourselves, we just didn't understand that that was gonna be on us.
We were considering taking out a different plan. The plan we have now is for systems. We’re retired and living on Social Security, and it's a big expense to pay. Now they want $61 a month for the whole thing and that's probably not gonna happen. We're probably gonna have to take out another plan to cover systems and not cover appliances. But right now, we're still covered with both the systems and the appliances although I expect we will be making that decision to get rid of the appliance coverage ‘cause it's just too much. Overall, AHS has been responsive and they have good vendors. The problems that we have are unique to the situation and it hasn’t caused us any lasting problems.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

My wife and I recently purchased our first home. We were provided by the sellers with American Home Shield for 1 year after we closed escrow (pretty standard). We live in Southern California which is in the midst of a heatwave. It is expected to reach 117 degrees today. Our central air conditioning unit's compressor failed. We had no AC. The company assigned to us for AC repair by American Home Shield was unavailable on Sundays, and it was a Sunday. They had an emergency number which we called but were told we wouldn't be helped for 2 Days. So, we called American Home Shield to find a different company to do the job.
The customer support agent had us on hold for 40 minutes. When he finally came back, he said he had checked with 25 other companies. None were available. Some of them didn't even have voice mail he said. He said that American Home Shield Dispatch would attempt to attempt to locate someone, and that we would hear back in 4 to 24 hours. That wasn't acceptable. So in the meantime, we started looking on our own for someone to do the repairs.
After 3 hours we finally found someone who repair our AC so we called back. Our hope was that because this was an emergency, and because they didn't have the resources to take care of us, that American Home Shield would approve the person we had found and process our request. The customer support agent put my wife on hold for 20 minutes. When they returned their phone connection was terrible - they said they'd call us right back. 15 minutes later, STILL NO CALL. So we called back AGAIN. After the usual 10 minute wait, a customer service agent said "Hello?" and then hung up! So we called AGAIN! 10 more minutes, and we get on the phone with another customer service agent. This agent like all the others said they would "do their best to help" and that "our request would be expedited." We laid out our grievances, the agent apologizes but offers no solution.
We go back and forth. Eventually she says that we would receive a call presenting us with "other options" sometime today. More back and forth, she backpedals to, "in the next 4 hours." At this point, it is clear that this woman (who is just doing her job) cannot resolve our situation.. We urgently need our AC repaired. 117 degrees is severe enough that it the situation is unsafe. We ask to speak to a supervisor. She DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE OUR REQUEST, instead she regurgitates what she's being saying all along "expedited," "4 hours" etc.
This is exhausting! But eventually she says that she will try to contact her supervisor who she only communicates with via CHAT. She would not provide us with a number or an email. And that was it, wait to hear back in 4 hours. This company has INSPIRED NO CONFIDENCE. This whole thing happened over the course of 5 to 6 hours. I do not expect to hear back in 4 hours, but after that time we'll call them back again - probably speak to someone else who is very polite but can't help us because they weren't given the tools to do their job.

American Home Shield is nice to have and at the time when I did it, the other ones didn't offer as much coverage. Just like having your car, you need some insurance in case something happens. Sometimes I don't have the money right off the bat to pay for a repair, but sometimes they got me thinking, "Should I just put this money away and buy the stuff?" I had three jobs this last season. To let them know what's going on and what my requirements are, I talk to the person on the other end of the line, but they are hard to get ahold of. I spend hours on line waiting and then the call drops when I start talking to the person. It's a waste of my time and I don't have that much time to sit around on the phone and wait.
This last person I spoke with was from Trinidad and some of the times, they are people from the Philippines. American Home Shield tells me who they're gonna send, and they try to send the cheapest guys. With the type of reviews they have when you google them (2 stars), they're not entering my place. Also, when people show up, they're not showing up ready to work and there are also people showing up who were not even on the schedule. At first, the documentation came in for Sears, but there were two other companies that showed up to my doorstep without even calling me. That was the first thing that I didn't like. Because nowadays, you can't take a chance with people coming to your door.
When Sears showed up, they came a little bit unprepared and they were coming from 100 miles away. They wanted to enter my place without putting on any kind of disposable shoe cover, and that's one of my pet peeves. I'm a service business owner myself and that's one of the things that I do. They gotta show up with boot covers. They can't just show up, go into people's house and bring all kinds of contaminants in the place. I always tell American Home Shield before they send somebody to make sure these people show up with that and now with the COVID, they got to comply with the COVID-19 protocol.
Sears went back and got something, but I shouldn't have to be telling them to do that. To show up prepared when they enter somebody's property should be standard operating procedure. That's what I do. Other than that, Sears did excellent work. They did their inspection and provided me the information of what's going on with the components. They passed the information on to American Home Shield, but I didn't know if I'm the one who's supposed to call them after the guy told them that the equipment can't be repaired. I talked to the guy this time and I had to spend another four hours on line trying to get ahold of somebody from American Home Shield. It's not good for me. Overall, there's a lot more room for improvement on the issues that I just mentioned.

I called American Home Shield first about my refrigerator. The guy from the first company was supposed to come to my home. They did not come into the house. He told me to just take a picture of the serial number to the refrigerator and he would order the part. But I never heard from the company for three weeks. A month later, my refrigerator was still broken. So, I called the home warranty company to tell them that I had been waiting for a whole month and it still was broken. They kept giving me the runaround, saying that they had to take it to a higher level and somebody else would have to approve for another company come out. Eventually, it got taken to someone that could approve for a second refrigerator company to come out. They came out and fixed it almost on the second visit.
The second company that came out was American High-Tech Appliance. They were very good. Their tech fixed my refrigerator. He came the first time, looked at it, and knew exactly what part needed to be done. He said he didn't have that part on his truck, but he would get a part. He came back in less than a week and fixed my refrigerator. Everything has been great and I haven't had any problems. My freezer part of the refrigerator is working perfectly.
I always call American Home Shield to let them know, and they contact whatever company they deal with. But my warranty is up in November and I'm still on the fence about renewing them only because it took a month and several phone calls to get a second appliance company to come out. It was on the warranty company to find the second company for us. So, that made me very angry that they wouldn't take that step.

The condenser of the AC wouldn't come on so the fan would just blow warm air. I submitted online my request and then within a half hour, I got the name of the repair company, and then I could contact them directly or they could call me and we schedule a time for them to come out. Comfort Connection came out and repaired the AC. They replaced a part and it worked for about five days. Then I called again and they came out and determined it was the compressor that was bad. However, I'm not gonna go ahead with the repairs at this point because it's going to cost about $1,000 out of pocket to fix the problem because the warranty doesn't cover the Freon.
Also, it’s a 33-year-old system so at this point, it doesn't seem worth it because something else could go wrong and I still have the cost of the warranty plus the $125 deductible each time the contractor comes out. Since I've owned this house for four and a half years, there's always a couple of calls I've made on the air conditioner. This stuff adds up and so I could just probably replace the thing for the same amount. I'm going to wait until the springtime and replace the conditioner altogether. When it comes to air conditioners, AHS is in the same ballpark as the others as far as what they cover so it’s a standard issue. I'm generally pleased.

I had an air conditioning issue and AHS dispatched Liberty Heating & Cooling to my house. They did an evaluation, determined that it was the compressor and then they came and did the work. They ordered the compressor, got the work done, and then they tested it and they ran into some problems. They checked and one of the final things that was wrong in the whole thing is that the breaker also needed to be replaced. It was popping. Liberty called AHS. AHS then dispatched, which is part of the same claim, Olde Time Electric. They replaced the breaker and the system works perfectly. Then my air conditioner is fixed. I had to pay for the Freon based on whatever the contractual obligations that AHS had versus what I had. I paid that directly to Liberty Heating & Cooling.
My only issue with AHS right now is that I got a letter in the mail saying that I owe $106.63 for Olde Time Electric as a service fee. I called multiple times and they said not to worry about it. But I am worried about it 'cause I don't want them canceling my policy. They have their group of vendors that they deal with for each individual repair requirements and they have their contracts with them, so great. They provided the person or the number of people or potential vendors. But I have to do the follow up to schedule the appointment so I guess that's on the homeowner to do.

I had to pay out my co-pay twice, which was kind of annoying because they were just unclogging a drain the first time. I didn't know how to do that so they kinda showed me how to do it.
American Home Shield's website would be better if you could put more specifically what you're needing. Right now, it just says some basic things, but it doesn't really let you put notes in where you can specifically say what is going on. They don't have this category which would've been helpful. The contractor kept on saying that it was not part of what they were here for and they wanna tell you to put in a new claim if they find something else wrong when they're in there doing that. If they're in here fixing this one thing, then shouldn't that all be connected to the one thing?
The first time that I put a claim in online, it did allow me to do two different things because we had two different things going on. They were both really minor things to fix. But the second time I put in a claim, I don't remember seeing an option for a second thing to be added. But I wasn't really trying to add a second thing, so I didn't look very hard. I wish that I had called. It would've been a much better option. Also, I didn't like the contractor that came out.
When the plumber was here for the second time, he said it was messed up in there. I told him that he should be able to fix that because he was in there fixing that problem to begin with. He said there was a small leak inside the little plumbing issue that was causing that little drain thing that pushes between the lever that keeps it from going from shower to bathtub. He told me he was not supposed to do that on this service charge and that I would have to call again because it was a different problem. He was trying to say that I was gonna have to pay another copay. I argued with him until he kind of said that he would fix it. I told him I've already done two claims. I was out $200 this week alone for him to come out here twice and I was not doing another claim. That made me feel like it was scammy.
They did not tell me that the first time they were here that I could've just added the second issue to that first ticket instead of having to pay out $200. So I'm not real crazy about these folks. When the plumber was in there messing with it, I could hear him griping and complaining about it. He was acting mad that he was gonna fix that extra problem he found while he was in there. He was acting like that was against his policy to do so. The whole thing was crazy. I didn't have a great experience.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I had a water heater claim with AHS that Super Plumbers came out for and everything went like it's supposed to. The techs were good people. The day I filed a claim, they came and did the job. They looked at the unit and said it wasn't any good. Then, they came out a couple of days later and fixed and replaced it. There was extra stuff that wasn't covered that I had to cover, like the faucet and getting the unit up-to-code, but it wasn't a lot.

The differentials from the point of entry to the output point for the HVAC systems were less than they were supposed to be. I submitted a ticket online to American Home Shield. Their website was fine, but it did not allow me to request service for two units. I could only request it for one, so I had to call and add the second unit. Next Generation notified me that they were coming and set up a time, and then let me know 30 minutes before when they were on their way. The service was great. It made my HVAC systems run efficiently.

Recently, I had the refrigerator fixed because it was making loud noises. The only thing that makes me nervous is that sometimes I worry that I'm gonna file a claim, it's not gonna fall under what I'm covered for and they're gonna charge me the $100 anyway. So if they had some way to give peace of mind. I haven't had that happen yet, but I often worry about it. Otherwise, AHS is good.

The upstairs AC was no longer cooling. The contractors that came for it were really good. They always came out when they say they would. Everything went fine. They also kept me updated, so I was very pleased. I've never had a problem with AHS. It's all worked out very well. They do what they say they're gonna do. They've got everything well organized. They got different levels of service that we purchase and we get what we pay for.

The AC is really old and it is taking a long time to cool down the house. It hasn't been dripping. But the technician said it was gonna need to be replaced soon. He said something was clogging it and he cleaned it out. But he couldn't see the bottom of the pan. He told me to call back if it kept dripping after 72 hours. But I've been checking it and I didn't see it dripping anymore. I love Home Shield. There has been one thing after another that has been going on and I've had to call Home Shield so many times. I had two claims in three days and they’ve been really good. For a home warranty, I'm really satisfied with them.

We were kinda doing a little remodeling and the drain was old and dilapidated. We filed a claim for a new drain and the contractor called me to set up the appointment. They’ve been great. It was a great experience with American Home Shield.

I was noticing that there was water leaking underneath the sink. My daughter said it had been leaking for a while. I called American Home Shield to have someone come out to fix the thing. Someone from Crystal Clear Plumbing came, took care of everything expeditiously, and worked great. He did everything while he was here. Apparently, the pipe that was soldered, when he grabbed it underneath the sink, it kind of deteriorated. It had rusted so badly that it needed to be replaced. But it's working perfectly now. Whenever there's been an issue, American Home Shield always had somebody that could come out within a day or two and take care of the problem. It's been fantastic and I've been very happy with it.

My most recent claim was a repair on our water heater. I did it online and the person assigned to it called me within 30 minutes. He was pretty good. We've been having problems with the water heater where the pilot light was going out quite often and hefinally replaced the whole ignition panel. The guy had me take a few pictures the night before and send it to him. He had the part with him and it was ready to go. He had it done within a few hours. I was really impressed with the whole process in general. It was nice not having to jump through hoops and get through things like we did with our previous home warranty company.

We never know if things in our house are repairable or if we should start planning to replace them or not. It is nice to feel that we've got it budgeted in to have things looked at if they start acting out. Home Shield gives us a little more confidence about reaching out to get help to get things looked at. It makes it manageable. When submitting claims, I look at the website and get an idea of what might be covered. Then, I give them a description and they usually have somebody contact me within 24 hours. Washington Electrician Service came out for an electric issue and it was a loose wire but the outlets seemed to not work all the time. They came back out and did another check. They explained everything to me and I'm completely satisfied.
