Updated on 08/23/2019: Base off of my last experience with America Home Shield, I would not do business with America Home Shield ever again! This company is a joke! My a.c. unit stop cooling at my house. AHS sent out a contractor to my home and the contractor gave me a diagnosis of low refrigerant and I needed a leak seal kit. The contractor was insisted that AHS would not pay for the leak seal. The contractor tried to start the job immediately. I advised him that he would need to submit the authorization to AHS before I proceed. Later that day, AHS stated they had approved the authorization and all I needed to pay was refrigerant. I advised AHS that the contractor was trying to charge me a $79 trip fee to return to complete the job and $250 for the leak seal.
Days after going back and forward between AHS and the contractor, I ask AHS to provide me something in writing to give to the contractor. AHS would not give me anything in writing to state what they would pay. Approximately seven days later, AHS assigned me a new contractor, the second contractor stated that my compressor was bad. The new Contractor told me I would have to give him $1000 or buy a new unit from him for $8500 plus before he would submit the work order. The second contractor submitted the work order three days after he first visited my house. I inform AHS what the second contractor stated to me. AHS stated to me that I had an option for a cash out of approximately $760.
At that point, I’ll began researching how much I could buy a new AC unit with heat pump for. Based off of the second contractor diagnosis compressor failure, I decided just to buy a new unit. Keep in mind, I live right outside of Phoenix Arizona where the last few months the temperature has been around 110° plus every day. I have a small child and two dogs and I am a disabled U.S. Army veteran. I had to go to Lowe’s and purchase a portable AC unit because we could not live in our house with this heat. The portable AC unit cost me $485. I decided to buy a new AC unit and take it advantage of the $760 in cash out from AHS. On the nineteenth day, without a working a.c. I call AHS to see if I can get another contractor out to my home.
To see if I can get more cash out money because I believe my AC unit was totally broken. AHS assigned a third contractor who showed up two days later. The third contractor came in, looked at my thermostat, went in the attic, and looked at my AC unit that is outside on the ground. The third contractor discovered what the problem was within five minutes of arriving. The third contractor took a picture of some burnt wires in my attic. He resolve the problem and I had cold air within 10 minutes. I contacted AHS and inform them that the third contractor had fix the problem. I made AHS aware that I had purchased a portable AC unit and a new AC unit for my home.
I asked AHS would they compensate me for my inconvenience and I had spent lots of money on new equipment. AHS and the escalation department advised me that they would not compensate me anything. Based off of their second contractor diagnoses that I had purchased a new AC unit and that it was unfair for me to receive three different diagnoses from three different contractors. AHS informed me that I would not even be getting the cash out money because my AC was fixed now. AHS does not want to take responsibility for sending contractors to my home and give me wrong diagnosis and trying to cheat me.
This was the worst experience dealing with a company or a firm I have ever experienced in my life. Three different contractors and 25 days later after making first contact with AHS I finally got cold air. However, I’m stuck with a $485 portable AC unit and a $4000 new AC unit. I find AHS a total waste of time and money. I will never say anything positive about AHS again. **
Original Review: American Home Shield sent out liars and cheaters to my home. They sent out a company that tried to cheat me and take my money right away. I informed the company that I would have to talk to AHS before I made a decision. AHS later contacted me and advised me of what they would and would not pay. I informed AHS that the company was trying to get me to pay a trip fee and pay for services that AHS covered. I ask AHS for the authorization so I could give it to the company. AHS refused to give me the authorization or even email what they would pay. I spend the next 3 to 4 days trying to speak to a supervisor. All they did was put me on hold for long periods of time and tell me a supervisor would call me back. In which, a supervisor never call me back. It as AHS is ok with their customers being defrauded and cheated. AHS has the worst customer service ever.

So, here we are 3 days later, still no response from the contractor and the same BS from AHS. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A HOME WARRANTY FROM AHS!!!! WORST SERVICE EVER!

This review is only for this specific experience. Other experience have been much better. To date (6 week time period), their contractor, Suncoast AC & Appliances, has made 5 visits to fix our washer. It still leaks/pours water on the floor during use. The outsourced customer service reps for AHS have been absolutely no help. They are unable to contact Suncoast, unable to make decisions to help fix the problem, unable to transfer me to someone who CAN help, do not return calls that they have promised they would, and (Some) are very hard to understand because of their accent. Visit number 6 is scheduled for today.
AHS would not give us a different contractor, even though it is very apparent that the technician does not have the knowledge to satisfactorily complete the job. AHS usually confirms appointment with a text and email. We got no confirmation or time slot, which is usually 4 hours. When I finally got through to customer service rep, she said someone would be here between 10:00 and 5:00. 7 hours. Rep said there was nothing she could do, which no longer surprises me. Awful, terrible, no good, very bad experience.
I am sorry to hear that AHS has not provided a suitable resolution at this time. Thanks for allowing me to assist you with your request. I am glad we were able to agree on a Resolution. You will receive a short questionnaire via email, please give us your new feedback.

Need to get English speaking customer service reps, had to repeat everything at least 2-3 times. I placed and paid for a contractor to come look at 7 ceiling fans in my house. They were very prompt with coming out to look and told us they would get back to us about what AHS would cover. We never heard from them, so I place a recall at the beginning of July and it's August and still haven't heard from the Contractor. The receipt the contractor left us said a couple of them needed light work. I tried contacting the contractor myself, by email and calling, and still haven't heard from them.
We have had an AHS warranty for 15 years and never had a bad experience until now and this is just ceiling fans! They have either repaired or replaced major appliances in my home over the 15 years. That's why I am shocked at how I am getting the runaround about ceiling fans. Hopefully this is an isolated case and I will continue to use AHS. I have tried one other home warranty company and it was a total disaster, so I came back to AHS.
Thanks for being an AHS customer for over 15 years. I hate to hear that you've had a bad experience with your ceiling fan. An email was just sent to you in a effort to resolve your issue. My name is Stacy and I look forward to assisting you.

We have had American Home Shield for over 10 years and it is getting worse and worse. Our AC goes out EVERY single year, we pay our service fee AND other huge expenses (freon at about $700-800 a year, etc) and it is still not fixed. We now have been without AC for weeks and no end in sight as to when they will be sending someone out to fix it. I am beyond disappointed at how this is being handled and can not rightfully recommend this company to anyone. Their commercials stating if they can't fix it they will replace it are not accurate. Sadly.
Good Morning, I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory, I see that someone is working on your case, Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Our range top microwave wasn't working. I went online to submit a claim to AHS and the experience was fine. The website was efficient. I was informed that I'd be contacted, and I was. It was all immediate. The contractor sent was fantastic. I also placed a call to file a claim for the dryer. They said it wasn't the dryer though. I needed to get the vent cleaned externally. So I had to call an external company to come and clean the external vent.
70 days later, the dryer was still a problem. And part of that delay was me making the time to reach out to them. Because again, the dryer's not anything I use every day. It's like once a week, or my son's using it and he wasn't telling me that it wasn't really drying, and he's drying multiple times. So, I would've again had to pay for them to come out, which I didn't think was right. I didn't wanna deal with the hassle so I just got my own dryer.
Another experience that I had was when my hot water heater was not really functioning like it should. I know it's old. I just bought the house and it's over 10 years old. But it seems like I have to wait until it does something, like rupture the floor. I literally have to turn my hot water all the way up in the shower in order to get it to warm. But it needs to be all the way broken then could lead to other damage of things that American Home Shield doesn't cover, which apparently doesn't seem to care about. Just the age alone of the hot water heater should be sufficient for them to say okay. While I had a good experience with the microwave, I had a boiler, for the most part, a good experience as well. But I'm contemplating whether or not I would renew with them.
Hi Allison,
I hope you continue to enjoy your American Home Shield warranty and the contractors we provide.

American Home Shield was great. I made a claim online and it was easy as pie. The guy that they sent was wonderful. He diagnosed what was wrong with the AC almost immediately. He had an idea and he said, "Well, let me check this first because this is what I think it is." And sure enough, that was what it was, and he fixed it and it was great. I've never had American Home Shield, so I didn't know what to expect. I was actually totally surprised that everything went so smoothly. And I've already recommended it to two people.

My air conditioner was broken and it was getting hot in my house. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the reps who worked with were professional. The techs from Southern Comfort HVAC fixed my AC and put the Freon. They did really good service. However, it would pay if the reps of AHS told me the full details. They didn't tell me that AHS didn't cover the full Freon. Instead, they told me that I was covered for everything. I had to come out another $165 and now I owe them 75 more dollars. That took me out of balance. I’m dissatisfied. I'm gonna tell everybody how they treated me.
Britney,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with AHS. I will work to see if there are any other options and follow up with you. Thanks for your patience.

I had a leaky hot water faucet and when I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield, I was given a time frame to expect the contractor between 8 o’clock to 10 o’clock. The rep from Prime Plumbing Services described the problem and showed me what the problem was but I didn’t get any type of paperwork receipt. So, everything went fine except for not receiving some type of documentation. The repair fixed the problem so, that was good. It was an excellent experience.

I filed a claim for an air conditioner that was making a lot of noise. American Home Shield's website is excellent because as soon as I pulled up my account, it said “Service Request”. I clicked on it and it said “What kind?” I clicked the air condition and it immediately popped up with a service and told me how much it would cost which I knew was $75. That was so good because it was easy for me to hit it and it went straight out of my bank account.
Within an hour, the technician from A.R.T. Heating & Air Conditioning was coming to my door. It was excellent. He came right out and said that it would probably be a day or two before they would get the part. My husband and I left, and they came back and left a card on the door that evening. They had gotten the part already and was coming back to fix it. The card said to give them a call so I called them the next morning and they said the guy had it but he was in another town. He was in Collin so he would be there that afternoon.
He came out and fixed it but then it wasn’t getting cold. The next day, we were gone and when we came back, it was 80 degrees. I called them back and I asked if I needed to do another service call. He said no and that he we would be right back out there to see what was going on. And he came right out and fixed it immediately. It’s just a wire that he had misplaced and as soon as he fixed it, within not even five minutes, it became quiet and cold.
They were really great. The guys were very professional, efficient and quick. They were very attentive too. It was a very good experience from beginning to the end. And even the guy who came back, he gave his number so if we have any problem, we can call him because he did something else. He said some kind of switch was on medium and it should have been on high. He said if we have any problem, we can call him and he'll come back and put it back on medium. And we haven’t had any problem. He said 99% of the time, that’s what it’s supposed to do.

A&K Appliance Repair came out for the refrigerator and everything went beautifully. There was a weird noise coming from the refrigerator. I called it in to American Home Shield and the guy came out the next day. He found out what the problem was and fixed it. He was in there for about an hour and a half. He was a real nice guy too. He showed me what the problem was and told me what he was gonna do. As a matter fact, they said they were gonna get to me and that they’d call after a while. My icemaker is working fine now. It’s putting out ice.
But when I tried to get the valves going to my water softener out in the garage replaced, that wasn’t solved real quickly. Every time the contractor would come out, they would give me a different reason why they couldn’t do it. The guy told me one time that he couldn't touch the water softener. I also bought some line. That way, they would see the line. But he came out and said it was not the right type of line. That went on for six weeks or more. I had to turn the water off from the garage because the valve is not working. The next time he came out, he said American Home Shield was not gonna cover this because of some reason. I told him to go ahead, pack up his stuff and leave, and that I would get it taken care of.
I called American Home Shield three times. I told them my part of the deal was $125 but since nobody was doing the work, I wanted my money back. I also know people who only pay $75 for their service. So first of all, I asked why I was paying $125 and nobody was giving me an answer on the water softener. American Home Shield gave me a bunch of deals. But they said they had to see the original paperwork and I was not even gonna bother trying to show them what happened. I called another company and they came out. Then I just replaced the valves, the lines, the whole works myself. I built up a whole new home water treatment system. I’m very dissatisfied. As a matter of fact, I called American Home Shield up in the last week and told them to just cancel my stuff. I didn’t wanna deal with it anymore. Then they had the gall to send me an email telling me I owe them $35. Nobody has been able to explain to me why either.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Robert. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to make sure your issue is resolved. I look forward to speaking with you.

AHS is awesome. Their contractor, Severe Climate Control came out and replaced something on my air conditioner. The tech said the motor was running backwards because something wasn't working. Now, the air conditioner seems to be doing better. It can't keep up all the time but I'm not sure if that's the air conditioner's fault or the fact that we live in Houston and it's but I think it's working now.
Currently, we have a microwave claim that hasn't finished yet. Their microwave guys were awesome but he just said that he couldn't fix the microwave so AHS would call me to get me a new microwave, which they did. However, it's the wrong model. They got us a countertop model but we have a built-in. So how could I use the countertop model when I need it to be vented for the built-in spot? I love the microwave, but it’s the wrong model. The AC was not cooling the house and the pipes that comes from the unit to the house was frozen over. We called American Home Shield and the tech from A-US Air Conditioning Texas came out. He said that it was low on Freon and that we needed three or five pounds. It was like $200 and something for us to pay, so we paid for it. The tech was professional, quick, and he came when he said he was coming. Everything went great. But that was the third time that we've had that unit repaired and we keep making payments to American Home Shield for people to come out and sent them different each time. And then us having to spend that over $200 on the Freon in addition to it, I feel like we're slowly rebuilding a unit instead of getting it fixed or replaced.
The same thing has happened with my washing machine. Contractors have been out several times and we even had one rep come out and tell me that I needed to use a cleaning agent on the washing machine. He refused to run the agent to see if it would stop the sound. But my washing machine is still making that terrible noise. The last guy that came said that AHS would not approve a replacement of the part that was needed to make that sound go away. Also, we have replaced several things on it.
I called and I got a window of time for them to come out and they didn't show. They called me that evening and said they could come and see me the following day which I had to take off an additional day of work to do. Then, they came in and they say they were gonna have to order that part so, then there was a third day off so that they could put the part in. And he told me that was really not gonna fix my problem and AHS doesn't approve of this part to be replaced at this point in time so, if it just quits, to call them. I've taken three days off of work. My washing machine still makes that loud sound and we spent that little deductible every time. I don't know how much money we've put into the washing machine at this point and I don't even know what it's worth. I would just have to wait till the washing machine completely quit before I can get anything done with it.
It's a little discouraging because our first interaction with AHS when we first moved in to the house, they handled our refrigerator situation amazingly and we told all kinds of people about them because of that. But these last few times, I'm like, I see why people don't recommend these warranties. We probably won't buy from them next year.

The AC wasn’t getting cold enough and when I called American Home Shield, it was confusing to me because they said I had to pay upfront. I spoke to somebody and I was told I had to give them my credit card number before I even got an appointment. That made no sense to me. They said they would charge me for the $75 booking appointment fee. The contractor was fine and the guy, Doug, was very nice. He said that if I put Freon there, it would help it get cooler, but he said it wasn't that big a deal, so I just left it because I would have had to pay. American Home Shield only covers $10 a pound of any gases, and it was 60 bucks a pound, so I didn't even worry about it. AHS asked me if I wanted to extend but I definitely would not extend it.

It was our first time using American Home Shield when the water heater was not heating water, and everything worked as advertised and as expected. Their process is pretty straightforward. Air Pro Master did their initial site survey on Friday or Saturday, and their team was there on Monday. They seemed to be equipped and ready to do the job. They had to go to Home Depot to get a steel pan for it to sit in because the plastic one that was in there was not up to code. They were back in about 40 minutes and an hour later, I was signing papers and they were leaving. Apparently, that was something that was supposed to have been noted in the initial site survey, but it was not noticed. The way it was explained was that the servicemen usually have more experience than the people who come out to the original site survey.

I went online to American Home Shield and made a service request for my air conditioner that was not blowing cold air. Using their site was easy, but it was only when I called that I heard from their contractor Marina Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. Someone was dispatched after three and a half days. The technician had to replace an electronic component and the AC has been good. Overall, the warranty company got the AC fixed which was what really counted.

Whenever we have a problem like that, we tend to file claims to American Home Shield online mostly. It tends to be easier. NorthStar Heating and Cooling came out for the AC issue and it went well. They were friendly and knowledgeable about what was actually going on with the unit. The AC is fixed and we have no complaints.

There was a leak in the unfinished section of my basement so I called American Home Shield, and then they sent the plumbers over, and they took care of it. They said that the pipe was super old and rusted out. So whenever water from the faucet would go down the drain, it would start dripping in the basement. They had to tear off a part of the drywall to get to that part of the pipes and it was on the other side of the wall. They had to cut out a big section of the drywall, and then they got in and they replaced it.
The plumbing company said they were gonna call and schedule a drywall person to come out and fix the drywall. A week went by and I didn’t hear anything from any drywall companies. So I called the plumbing company back and they connected me with the original plumber, and he said that he had scheduled it American Home Shield, so I needed to call them back. I called American Home Shield and after that, they got a drywall person out. So, from start to finish, it was a week and a half to two weeks between the pipe being fixed and then the drywall being patched. But it wasn’t a super huge deal. I was pleased with the contractor. They fixed it up really quick, and it went very smoothly. The only hiccup was with scheduling the drywall. It was a lot of back and forth.

When I came back on Saturday, after I stepped out for a couple of hours, the water was overflowing the pipe. I couldn't stop it. I don't know what was going on but the water kept on overflowing like the toilet was stopped up. I filed the claim with American Home Shield over the phone through a recording. I left a message and then they said, “Hold on.” I didn't get to speak to them until Sunday when I called back.
With the first contractor American Home Shield assigned, I couldn't get in touch with them because my call kept on going through the voicemail. I had to keep on calling American Home Shield and they couldn't get in touch with the contractor either. So American Home Shield assigned another contractor. But the people from Ray Stovall Plumbing were from New Orleans and they always do their work in Lafayette on Tuesday. So I had to wait until Tuesday. But the wait was really fast and I was very satisfied with them. The technician was very professional, friendly and fast. He found the problem just like that. I had bought all kinda parts myself trying to unstop the thing. But he fixed it in less than 10 minutes. He knew what he was doing to me and everything is working good now.
I was very appreciative because I had to go use the restrooms in a friend's house and in the store. The only thing I regret is that the first company should have been in Lafayette and I would have had faster service. But it took a company way out of New Orleans to come and give me service. Nonetheless, I would recommend American Home Shield to friends. So far, I’m very satisfied with them. They have changed two central units for me over the years since I’ve been with them, as well as different other things like my washer.

I filed a claim with AHS back in April. But the company was not able to fix the problem. So I called back and AHS said they would send in a second opinion. And I told the guy on the customer service that I had a certain unit that is called a water-based air conditioner, because they were sending somebody of regular air conditioners. AHS sent me another company, and that company didn’t work with my air conditioner. The guy was telling me, “Where is the other part?” I was like, “What do you mean the other part?” “The other part of the air conditioner.” “This is the air conditioner. This is all. That’s why it’s a water-based.” The guy didn’t have any idea what he was looking at. So I had to call back because he was saying, “No worries. I will call the company and I will tell them to send you somebody else.” That didn’t happen. So in those periods, it took another week.
I was sent a third company, and that company took a little longer than I expected, but they finally resolved the issue. The guy was able to find the problem, and it was a very simple thing – the cables. It was one cable that was not connected in the right thing. I think that the other people, while they were trying to do or fix something, changed things that they didn’t have to change. So the guy had to change the motherboard panel. But it did not cost any extra to get the other people in because everything was happening under the 30 days that they should warranty the job is going to work.
It took a very long time for the third guy to tell me, “The part is not coming.” He never call me back. He was not reporting to the American Home Shield on time. So I have to call American Homes Shield eight times. The guy was not the most punctual guy, but that was the guy that fixed the problem. I am very happy that he did. He was a nice guy and the ac has been working properly. It’s not shutting down and making noises anymore. It’s not overheating anymore. Also the representative from American Home Shield helped me all the time. The guy I told about my unit being water-based unit but still sent the wrong tech was still nice, anyway. Everybody has been very nice.

I had an issue one time with my AC unit where one of the contractors came out, diagnosed it but didn't actually diagnose it. Smoke was coming out of the vents and he overlooked why that was the case. He was just gonna okay it afterwards. We would have to do a separate claim, which would’ve taken weeks.
Thereafter, I had this total thing wherein I told AHS “No. You’re gonna fix it right. I’m not gonna do two separate claims for the same issue.”. There was a little back and forth that we had. Still, every other AC incident I've had with AHS was fine. Their contractors have always come out and fixed my issue. Their service is reliable enough.

I had a problem with my AC and American Home Shield sent a company out. It was supposed to be a 12:00 to 4:00 appointment, and they showed up at 2 o'clock. And in the text message, they said I had to pay for Freon, which was okay. It was over $10 a pound. The service guy showed up and said the coil needed cleaning and it wasn't covered. He put in two pounds of Freon and cleaned the coils. He wasn't there that long. That was a week ago on a Tuesday. During the day, it never would get cool in here. So, on Tuesday evening, I called American Home Shield. On Wednesday, Best Way Mechanical called me back and set an appointment up for Thursday.
My daughter was at home. She said, "Dad, this seem to be working. It's 75 degrees in here now." So, I canceled it. I got home Wednesday night, and it was back to 78 degrees again. Now, it was late at night, which I already canceled the appointment. I called them back and they said they already filled my appointment for Thursday and they'd come out Monday. I asked what time they'd be here and they said it would be from 12:00 to 4:00. About 20 minutes to 12:00, I called them. They said they got pulled off and they couldn't be here until later that day because they had an emergency. They ended up showing up around 3 o'clock on Monday afternoon and they said there was a line leaking. So, we're still without the AC unit because they don't have the line. And this is Best Way Mechanical, which I talked to American Home Shield.
Last night, I tried to call Best Way Mechanical back, but I was put on hold over 30 minutes. I have not talked back to them when they're gonna be out here until I questioned American Home Shield. I said, "I did put out $239 out-of-pocket cost, which the Freon was $139, and $100 to clean the coils." I asked them if I have to pay for Freon again. And every time they come out, there's another $100 for American Home Shield. I don't have to pay the $100 every time they come out because it's a recall. So, right now, it's in limbo with Best Way Mechanical. American Home Shield is doing their part. They were supposed to reach out to the company with the technicians, and then find out what's going on there. But I have used American Home Shield for some other things and we have not had any problem.

Updated on 08/12/2019: AHS Customer Service is a misnomer. Their job is to waste your time asking the same questions OVER AND OVER AGAIN; tell you not to worry because they will help you; put on hold for at least 10 to 15 minutes to "check". If you ask for a supervisor, you can disconnected (I was twice) and when one of them says they will connect you, you are put on hold again for at least 15 minutes while they are "looking" for one???? Most importantly, their job it seems is to say that they have to wait for the company they assigned. It will be two weeks tomorrow that we have had no fridge and all I can get is that the company they assigned and who said they fixed the fridge but in reality did not, will call me AGAIN to TRY AGAIN sometime.
Original review: AHS seems to treat all appliances the same. If your fridge breaks down, they seem to think that losing it for AT LEAST 2 weeks while the repair company decides what parts are needed, get authorization from AHS, wait for the parts (3-5 days) and then fix it (MAYBE) is NORMAL. The Company does not seem to understand that a fridge is not like a dishwasher. We can wash our dishes by hand but we cannot keep food if we do not have a fridge. I spent the past week on the phone with them and their repair company and all I can get is "This is how the process is". Next time you are looking for a company, you better check what they say about their service level for appliances that are critical because AHS does not know the difference and they do not care.
Good Morning Sam,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

I purchased the ShieldPlus plan the day I closed on my new home. I called and set up autopay, extended the plan for 2 years, paid the first month fee, and thought everything was was all set. How wrong I was. The first service request I paid for was a Rekey to change all the locks. The contractor reached out to me within the time frame, which was great, but things quickly went downhill after that. He called to say he wouldn't be in my area until next week and that he'd call me. After multiple voices messages, texts, and general back and forth, we couldn't lock in a time.
Meanwhile, I needed to request a plumbing repair. When I logged into my account online to do so, I was blocked from making any service requests because it said I owed the full amount of the cost of the policy. Even though I'd just paid the first month and set up the monthly auto pay, I still had to call back to try to fix the issue. This phone call took an infuriating 1.5 hours to resolve. The two support agents were very nice, which was helpful, but the account was supposed to be set up to be paid monthly. I'd literally just went through the entire process days prior with one of their agents. With all the things you have to do as a new homeowner, AHS has made the transition even worse. The experience has been miserable. Their promotional materials make it seem as if it's the smoothest process in the world, but take it from me, it is not. I hope it gets better from here.
I apologize for the inconvenience Robinette. In a effort to resolve your issue, an email was sent to you. My name is Stacy & I look forward to assisting you.

Where to start? I was an AHS customer for about four (4) years. Despite being on hold for 54 min to 2 hours and 10 minutes, on average and on at least 12 occasions with AHS, I initially thought they were the best option for home warranties. That changed completely once our dishwasher stopped working. To make a very long story short, the very first repair person that came out to investigate reported to AHS that the dishwasher would need to be replaced. Instead of replacing the dishwasher, AHS forced us to call back and wait on hold for hours on end for months, while they continued to send different repairmen out.
The original repairmen even came out a second time several weeks later, and he called and asked us if this was a mistake, as he had already told AHS that the dishwasher would have to be replaced. We told him that AHS refused and continued to send other repairers to investigate. He then called AHS and again told them that the dishwasher would need to be replaced, but they insisted he come out to look at it again. He did, and once again called AHS and told them the washer would need to be replaced. Finally after several frustrating months (all the while caring for a newborn), AHS begrudgingly replaces the washer. I wish that was the end of the story. We then get a letter in the mail stating that AHS was going to start charging us $100 per month for the same plan we had because of the various service calls we had made.
It turns out that each time AHS sent a new repairman for the same issue (which they knew could only be fixed with a replacement since day 1), they opened a new service call, so it looked as if we had made multiple service requests that year. Well, AHS wrote to us to state that they were now going to collect on it. So to add insult to injury, after several long excruciating months, AHS tries to unjustly increase our premiums by 250%, all because of its own mistake in failing to replace the dishwasher after the first repairman reported that this would be the only solution. Had AHS listened to the first repairman, they would have not only saved us the frustration, anxiety, and headaches, but they would have saved themselves hundreds of dollars.
Not only would this be a terrible experience under normal circumstances, but in our case we had a newborn (we called for service again from the hospital just after I delivered) and were planning to use the sterilizer function on our dishwasher to sterilize our newborn's bottles, but we could not because of AHS. Once we received the letter regarding the 250% increase in premiums, we tried calling AHS on multiple occasions (including recently) asking to speak to the cancellation department, the client retention department, the underwriting department, and every other department that was mentioned to us, in an attempt to correct their error regarding the "multiple service calls" so that we could maintain our policy, but to this day (almost a year later and despite our recent calls) we have yet to hear back from anyone.
When we did reach someone in customer service, they stated that they could not transfer us to the cancelation/retention department, and someone would need to call us, but again, no calls to date. AHS has truly terrible customer service, and they will do anything to avoid replacing items that fail. From our experience, it seems they will continue to drag things out in the hopes that the paying customer will give up and resolve the issue on their own.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with AHS.

This is a scam company, with the worst home warranty product ever. I got a warranty with them as part of my closing from my seller. The first day in, we found 2 leaking taps, one of which burst and starting running and flooding my backyard. I called AHS, and they had no emergency service. Asked me to log a service request, assigned it to a contractor, and the contractor that called me said that they can only come out in 4 days. Let the yard flood or go somewhere else for my repair. So I had to call in an emergency plumber on my own dime to fix that tap.
When the AHS contractor did show up in 4 days to look at the second leaking tap, he said that it needed to be replaced, but they did not have a "hose bib valve" in stock and will call me in a day or two. It has been 9 days since that and they still have no update for me, even when I have called them a couple times. AHS is no help either, saying that the contractor will call me when they have the part. Of course, you have already charged me $75 co-pay 2 weeks ago, so who cares, right? Let the tap leak and the problem stay. This is a genuine review, and here is my service ID to prove it - **. I really should be suing this company for breach of service, if only I had the time. Never using them or calling them again.

I have used AHS for my home for 2.5 years. I requested service twice in total. One repair (garage door) went fine, the second (faucets) was very bad. The contractor did not repair the leaky faucet but did leave a hole in my wall. He told me that drywall repair was not his area of responsibility but that a different contractor would come out within a few weeks to repair the wall.
After 4 weeks of no one showing to repair the wall I called AHS to complain but was told I was out of luck because work orders can't be reopened after 30 days. Despite their own contractors lying. On top of this, I had to pay a cancellation fee to cancel the service! And this is on top of the annual price increases of $60 (14%). Waste of money and even bigger waste of money. Avoid.
Your patronage to American Home Shield is more than appreciated. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience with the leak that was repaired.

Now I'm having to work with my bank to stop any future payments to this dishonorable company and will never do business with them again.

Update 08/16/2019: Do not expend good service from this company. I had to pay a service fee of $100 to get a technician to come look at my hot water heater. After waiting almost two days I found out that they could not find a vendor in my area.. so I had to arrange to have one come myself. I was told I would have my service fee reimbursed. Well here I am some over a week later and still not reimbursement of my service fee. This company will gladly take your money... but won't provide good service.
Original review: I have had American Home Shield for almost a year. Never had to put in for a service call. Recently I had to, and put it in and it has been over 24 hrs and they still don't have a repair person assigned to come help me. I am without hot water and they can't even find a person to come fix my water heater. I am not impressed with the slow turn around and lack of contact from them. If they were having issues at LEAST I should have gotten a phone call or email, but NOTHING.

I had called for a/c service on Monday 7/29/19. The technician assigned, HVAC SVCS did not call me so I had to call them for appointment. When the came, he did not explain the problem associated with the a/c. He said it needed coolant, which is $100/lbs and I needed at least 9 pounds. AHS pays $10/lbs and I had to pay the difference. I had told him that I had this filled in mid-June by another technician and if it had evaporated in such a short time, there has to be a leak which should be fixed. Apparently, the technician did not recommend any such service but insisted on filling the gas to collect his money. The R22 coolant is available on-line for $390 for a 30lbs tank. AHS was told about this and their response on 8/1/19 was that they were waiting for report from the technician. 8/2/19, I called again - same response - waiting for response from technician. 8/5/19 - again the same response - waiting for technician report.

Came home from vacation to a flooded kitchen. The cause was a stoppage in the upstairs sink. Even with the water turned off sink was still filling up. Requested service and they didn't have a contractor available for 2 days. Stated the urgency of my repair. My bathroom was flooding! Finally after about 8 hours of phone calls, being placed on hold for several of them I was approved for an outside contractor. Most of their customer service representatives are out of the country and very difficult to understand. I was never informed my contractor had to call to get approval first. I was just denied reimbursement and they still charged me the $75 service call. I will now have to dispute the charge with my credit card company.

As a matter of fact, we had an issue where we had to do a recall, and they were very helpful. We had some questions and they gave us good advice about even dealing with AHS. This is the first time I’m having a home warranty system claim and American Home Shield has been outstanding so far. It was about a couple of days after I filed the claim that the contractor was out there. I was surprised when I spoke to him, he knew that my air conditioning system is old. He put some dye in the system which nobody had never done in the past just to try to find the leak. The problem was it was low on Freon. He recharged the system so once the Freon will get low again and I call them back out again, hopefully they’ll be able to find the leak at that time and they can repair the system. The contractor did what he was supposed to do, did an outstanding job on it, and the air conditioning unit has been cooling since.

I had such a great experience with American Home Shield. My air conditioning stopped working. I was at home and just noticed things getting warmer. So, that night, I kind of did all things I could, and checked the breaker. I’d submitted the claim online. It’s my first time ever utilizing it too. So, it’s very much a convenient means of submitting a claim through the website overnight. I did it at like midnight, so it’s nice that I was able to do it at that time. The next morning, a young lady named Trudy helped me out. At first, it was kind of an issue because they would've wanted to send somebody out the following day, but here in the Las Vegas Valley, it's in excess of 100 degree on a daily basis, and I have a dog.
So, Trudy was on the phone, and I was on hold too, but it wasn’t an issue because she was helping me out for like an hour and 15 minutes talking to every company that American Home Shield has on their list. She ended up finding Sahara Cooling & Freezing and as soon as she did, they were able to be in my home within half an hour, so I met them there. I left work. They repaired my AC within 25 minutes. They were very professional and courteous. I have nothing but appreciation for American Home Shield as a company as well as the Sahara Cooling & Heating for getting it resolved so professionally and quickly.
Everybody in my family has American Home Shield. My brother's air conditioning stopped working and they helped him out as well. It makes sense to have American Home Shield, especially with people my age where we don’t have the lump sum sitting around to replace the washer and dryer or the air conditioning unit. I plan to renew my contract at the end of this year as well.

The contractor whom they sent was the guy who has worked on my refrigerators before and he was very professional. He knows what he's doing, gets in and doesn't spend half a day looking around. He replaced the motor but then once he did that, he found that the transmission was bad. That part alone was $473 so rather than fixing my old washer, AHS replaced it with a new one. Overall, I like American Home Shield. However, when I call, nobody amongst their reps can ever give much information about what's going on. It's like the ball is dropped. Integrity Plumbing came out because I just had a hot water heater put in there by a previous company, and it never really worked very well from the get-go. It just wasn’t working properly. And when you turn the hot water on, it would completely shut off. But I thought maybe that was just the way that it is now. Like I don’t know anything about that stuff. So, it just continued to get worse. I called AHS right away when it was not working at all. I submitted the claim like 2:00 in the afternoon, and somebody called me at like 11:00 that next morning.
I really would not recommend the previous company that made the repair the last time, it was through AHS as well. I felt like they were just trying to make as much money as they could off of me. Like they had all these different levels that they were talking about. And one of the levels they were talking about was like $2,000 out-of-pocket. And I was like, “I’m not paying you $2,000. I have a warranty. You shouldn’t be getting any money out of me.”
This new guy with Integrity Plumbing was more informative. They were super helpful and they were very communicative. So, I got texts. They were quick to respond too. And actually, I had a personal issue that I needed to have the repair taken care of because I had to go out of town. And so, the owner was aware of that, and he added me to the end of one of his days so that it could get done before I left. It seemed to be working fine now, nothing was leaking. And the contractor cleaned up after himself too. I was very impressed with him. I had a great experience.

Remy Appliance & Repair came out to service our dryer. It wasn't turning. And that claim was smooth. Everything was awesome. When submitting claims with American Home Shield, I have to do it online because trying to call is worthless. You either get some guy who doesn't understand anything or you wait on hold for 35 minutes. They're reading off a script. If you wanna outsource, at least let the reps speak English. All they wanna do is read off a script and say, "Of course, sir. Of course, sir." It drives me absolutely crazy. Their website is okay, but I'm not an 80-year old. If I was an elderly home owner in my 80s, and I had American Home Shield, and I didn't know a damn thing about computers, I would sit around on hold for hours trying to get my claim put in, especially if it's after hours.
Other than that, the contractor from Remy Appliance & Repair was awesome. He came out, he fixed the dryer, and he left. It was on time, everything went off without a hitch. My water heater on the other hand, I spent three hours. And they were lying to me. I said, "Transfer me to someone stateside." "Okay, I'm transferring you now." "I am in Tennessee." "You are not in Tennessee." I really don't appreciate being lied to. And then, I really messed with them, I said, "Well, you know, I have voice-over IP too, and your server's coming out of the Philippines, so you're not in Tennessee." And then you could've heard a pin drop. I'm an IT guy. I was making it up, but I hit the nail on the head.
I had one really bad experience and a couple of good ones. But the water heater was terrible. It took them like three weeks to fix my water heater. The guy came out, he tried something, and it worked for a day. I had to call back, then they had to reschedule, and they came back and tried something else. It worked for a couple of days, and then they had to come back. And then the first contractor they set me up with, I looked him up and I called American Home Shield and told them I don't want this guy in my house because he answered the phone like, "What?" and then he goes like, "Yeah, I can get there in like 10 days." They hire some shady dudes. This guy was terrible. And bottom line is, if they would've listened to the first guy and just replaced the water heater, it would've cost them less money. They had to pay a guy to come out here three times and put parts three times.

We had a leaking toilet and we had a faucet in one of the showers that wasn’t functioning. When I was submitting the claim with AHS, I first tried to do it online. But every time I did that, it would not work because my phone number and zip code were screwed up. So, I called my claim them in then they asked me a bunch of questions that I had to answer. I kinda walked them through and after that, they said that they found me. So somehow, our phone number and zip code must’ve got input wrong when we bought the contract. But now the online thing should work because whoever I spoke with last time fixed it.
After I submitted the claim, AHS sent out Rex’s Heating & Cooling. Their tech came out three times and he was very nice. His service was also very good. On the first trip, the shower faucet got fixed and he put in a couple of parts in the toilet to fix the leak. But the leak didn’t get fixed and there was another problem that was related to the joint or the coupling in the floor. So he came back, took the toilet out, and put in a new one of that thing in the floor where the toilet goes through that you put the seals on. Also, he didn’t have the parts the last time he came out because he didn’t expect to take the toilet out and find that thing that sticks out of the floor that was screwed up.
Then, he had to cut a hole on the floor in the lower bathroom. We thought everything was fixed and so did he, but the toilet still continued to leak. During that second time, he tightened up the tank the first time but did not take it off. So the third time he came back, he had to take the tank off. Also, it turned out that there was a gasket that got squashed down so it wasn’t working properly and that was where the water was leaking. So, there were three separate leaks in the toilet and they got fixed one at a time. It was Monday when the tech last came out. It's Wednesday now and it’s not leaking, so that's good news. The only thing open now is we’ll wait a little bit more and make sure it’s not leaking, then holler AHS. That’s what they told us to do.
So far, we’ve had American Home Shield several times before and when we submit a claim, they would say that they would see if they could repair something. We had an air conditioner at our old house and they came out three times to work on it. We also had an electric tankless water heater, which was junk, and AHS fixed it a couple of times. And when I asked the tech why they didn't just replace the thing, they said that AHS wouldn't replace it, so they had to fix it a few times.

I submitted a claim for a compressor that broke and it took a long time. That's what I was unhappy about. It took seven days for it to get taken care of in the middle of the summer heat. I stressed that to American Home Shield, and they said it was in the company's hands. They were done with it. In other words, we had to wait on the company to take care of it.
They said it takes like a 24-hour time for the company to fax the paperwork over. When I haven't heard anything, I called American Home Shield back two days later. I got the number from American Home Shield and I called Total Air Care. The rep said American Home Shield hadn't approved it yet. I called American Home Shield back, and they said it was approved. So, I was calling back and forth. They were like, "You have to wait until this gets resolved." I waited another couple of days, and I called back. Finally, somebody came out and American Home Shield had to approve it again. They had to wait for a part, and something else had to get approved so it took kind of a long time. I kept on asking American Home Shield if there was any way that they could help me to purchase the window air condition and they told me no. It was not the best experience.
The worker was a nice man. He worked real hard. It was pouring rain and he even worked through the rain. He fixed it fine but I was upset because the timing took so long. The office workers just didn't seem to have it together. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield. I've been a customer for many years and every other experience was okay. Before the air conditioning system problem, I had no problem. I thought American Home Shield gave me a pretty good service.
When it comes to air conditioning, American Home Shield should be a little bit more accommodating to the people living in Florida because of high temperature. It's grueling to be without air even for a couple of hours, let alone eight days. It's very uncomfortable. American Home Shield should at least try to accommodate those kind of people by having backup air condition companies, and these parts made available faster, and getting this approval. I had to beg American Home Shield. I was calling them for help. I got disconnected a few times from them, and nobody returned my call. They do have my number on file and they have my case open but they never called me right back. I'm gonna start looking into other companies that would maybe do this better for me in the future. I wanna be treated like a paying customer.

I had a problem with an AC unit and when I submitted a claim with AHS, they sent out Simtech Services. They were very professional and very knowledgeable. It's been a week since the repair and so far, I haven't seen any condensation water come out the pipes. I just called them about that, so this is still an ongoing problem. Their tech told me that they were starting to close but he said he was gonna try to see if he could swing by. I don't want any more problems and I wanna make sure everything is right before it gets worse again.
This AC unit issue has been going on for three months now and I had several bad experiences with the other technicians that AHS sent out. Most of them were inappropriate up until the last one. In fact, Simtech was the best technician that came out. The other techs didn't wanna do the job, so they gave inappropriate diagnosis and that lingered on to bigger problems. In total, AHS sent three different companies out. The first company sent a guy who was drunk. He just looked at the system and didn't do any diagnosis. Then, he got on his phone and called his boss. I went upstairs at the time and when I came back, he got his feet on the door.
So, I called American Home Shield and they told me that he gave a diagnosis that was really foolish. But they said that they had to stick by what the technician said. Then, they sent another person out for a second opinion and he said that he couldn't really do anything because the AC was working. He said that the only way he could repair it or American Home Shield would replace it is if it breaks down. So then I called AHS for a third time. I was getting ready to cancel my contract because I was frustrated. I have a relative that has cancer who is living with me and I have to keep him cool at all times. Then, the guy from Simtech came in. He diagnosed the whole system and checked all the parts. Then he did the repairs and what that other technicians could have done.
Aside from that, the last two people I talked to at AHS were really helpful and I really appreciate them for that. When I called the last time, I was outraged and very upset, so they calmed me down. But the other customer service rep I talked to could care less. Still, I'm very satisfied with AHS. I don't think anybody that has a home warranty should go through what I went through. It was 100 degrees at one day and it was torture. But I know that American Home Shield helps some people that have concerns.
Hi Ricky,
Your feedback is more than appreciated and I hope the contractor is able to follow up with the leak request.

On May 14th, I called American Home Shield because my stove went out. The information said somebody would call me within 24 hours. I got a call later that day and a guy said he would be out that Thursday. I specifically told him that was fine but I could not be here between 2:30 and 3:00. I told him to call me 20 minutes ahead so that I could make sure that if it was gonna be between that time, I could have somebody there until I can get there. He said that was fine.
That Thursday, he called me at 2:35 and said he would be there in five minutes. I reminded him of what I had specifically told him about calling 20 minutes ahead as I was not available between 2:30 and 3:00. I told him I would head over there but I wouldn't be there in five minutes. He told me that there was nothing he could do. He would be out of the city. But as soon as he got back to the office, he would call me and schedule an appointment. I never heard anything all day Thursday and Friday.
I called American Home Shield back on Friday afternoon. They said they would send someone else out. There was no call on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I called back on Monday and they said they sent the service request to somebody. They should be calling me any time that day. Finally, I called Tuesday morning. The contractor said they got the service request last night. American Home Shield was supposed to send it over Friday but the contractor didn't get it until Monday.
It took me two weeks to get somebody to come out. Finally, a technician came out and fixed the top part of my stove. For the bottom part, they had to order a part which was fine. The part came about a week and a half later but it was broken. The technician put the part in and told me to use the stove to make sure that it worked. I did but the stove did not work. I called again. Nobody knew anything about it. It took me another week and a half before somebody figured it out.
They decided to order another part. The guy came out and said the first technician should have checked the part before he left their shop. I sat here waiting for three hours for the second technician to come in and say that the part didn't work as it was broken. They were gonna have to put in a request to replace the stove. I was without a stove for another two weeks. I couldn't even use the top part. The technician turned the power off because he had to take the power board.
I waited a couple of days before I called because I didn't hear anything about it. But nobody knew anything. Everything was a mess. I finally got ahold of somebody. American Home Shield finally said they were sending me a link. I was to go on and accept the stove which I did. They didn't send out the same people that they sent out to fix the stove. The ones who came at that time said they couldn't install the new stove. It was a hardwire installation and they were not allowed to do that. I called American Home Shield immediately but nobody could help me. I was told I had to go through the purchasing department. This was a Friday afternoon and the purchasing department was closed. There was nothing they could do until Monday.
I called on Monday but I couldn't get through the purchasing department. For some reason, their lines were down and nothing was working. I called back and spoke with somebody. They finally said that I didn't need the purchasing department. They could take care of the issue. They were gonna send somebody else out. They had somebody call me and I asked them if they were licensed or if they were certified to do hardwire installation. I was told Appliance Worx was going to be called because they were the ones who were supposed to be sent out as they were the ones that came out the first two times.
But they called me back and said that Appliance Worx was not certified to do the installation either. American Home Shield was gonna send Rapid Appliance out instead. I got a call from Rapid Appliance and I asked them if they were allowed to install hardwire. They told me they didn't know and that they would call me back. They called me back a half-hour later and said they were allowed to install hardwire. I had an appointment for the following Friday. But they called me that afternoon before saying they couldn't do the service as they were overbooked. They could come out the following week.
They finally came out the following week. They were supposed to be here at 7:30 in the morning because of all the times that they had me waiting. They contacted me and said they were running late. Somebody's car broke down. They finally showed up about at 11 o'clock. They got the stove installed. That took me more than two months.
When I signed up for American Home Shield, one of the first things I asked was if they do what they are supposed to do. I had two policies previously. The first policy I had came with the house when we bought it. That was 20 years ago. That worked perfectly and I had no problems. The second policy I had was horrible. It was a nightmare dealing with them. I told American Home Shield that if they were not legitimate, I didn't need the hassle. There were other companies out there. They said they were really good. But with my experience with my stove, I am very dissatisfied even though everything is fine now and the stove is working. Getting through their process was ridiculous.
I apologize for the inconvenience Tenette. I've sent you an email in a effort to resolve your issue. My name is Stacy and I look forward to assisting you.

I would recommend American Home Shield. Our most recent claim was for the AC and it went perfectly fine. It was very easy to do our claim online, and they also got back to us right after we signed off. They got right to us and told us who would be contacting us. The issue happened on a Saturday. So, they weren’t able to get back to us until that Monday. And then that Friday is when someone came out. He knew exactly what the problem was and he had the equipment right on his truck. It was like a tiny canister that he just had to replace. He was prepared.

He got right to it and figured out what the problem was, and he was able to solve it for me.

But to get a hold of someone from American Home Shield after that is extremely hard. I would usually stay on the phone for 45 minutes to an hour. Other than that, it's been a pretty good experience. For my refrigerator claim, Baker Appliance was sent out. I filed the claim on Friday and they came on Tuesday. They were great. I've had them there before and they were great then too. Now, my refrigerator is perfect.

I like American Home Shield but I couldn’t get through to a live representative and any time you call to speak to a rep, it’s someone who can’t speak clear English. It’s difficult to get across what I need done because they don’t understand. I went online and filed a claim for the leaking toilet and for the faucet in my other bathroom but the computer didn’t pick it up that way. It looked like it was only for one thing. The mix-up and it being not easy to file a claim online created the length of time.
The plumber came out and looked at the leaking toilet. He tightened the bolt but didn’t check anything else and it turned out to be something else. It took a week before they could send someone out to look at it again. So, I had a leaky toilet for an additional week, which created more water damage. It turned out to be the gasket between the bowl and the tank, so he changed that. He said he couldn’t even look at my second issue, which was my shower in the other bathroom. They sent another plumber out because I refused to have the guy, Edgar, come back. Also, the lady in the office at that plumbing company was rude to me, so I’m not very happy with the company, only the second guy who came out. He was professional, nice and took care of everything. Since then, the performance has been fine.

There was a plumbing problem and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. It was one claim where two issues came in. There was a leak that went down through my ceiling and there was mold that we noticed in the ceiling tile from an empty room. The contractor was professional and he got to the problem right away. He looked at the source of the problem and looked deeper into it. It was one of two areas and it could’ve even been two different problems that caused it. So, he resolved one of the problems that was within the realm of his scope and that was good. He did everything he needed to do. He did it quickly and he explained it in such a way that I could understand what he was doing and why he was doing it. So, he even went beyond to help me understand what I needed to do on my end.
There’s still mold in the ceiling and the ceiling tile but that isn’t in his area as a contractor. Also, we had a tornado hit my house. With the big, high winds, there was this water that came down through the vents that happened where some more water came into the same area which caused the water into that area. This other issue is going to be resolved when the other contractor puts a new roof on and other areas are sealed.

We had a plumber that was supposed to come out and he was absolutely the most unprofessional person. He messed up so many times and we filed complaints. I was told I was gonna get a refund for what we paid but we didn’t. American Home Shield refused. It seems like we’ve put in a lot of money for years to be able to have confident people come and work on our products, and unfortunately, we don’t. Recently, we submitted a claim online for the oven. It wasn’t working at all. The gentleman came and he said he fixed it but he didn’t. We have to buy another oven because I don’t want to spend another $75 to ask somebody to come out.

I had to call a second time to American Home Shield for them to try another company. Then One Source Heating & Cooling came out and took care of it. They resolved one of the main issues. The other ones, they couldn’t because of lack of accessibility to the furnace, but that’s not their fault. In general, we’re pleased. Our garage door would start to close when we would hit the button to close it, but then it would just come back up on its own. And we would have to hit the button a couple of times. We would have to hold it down. And then from the car, we would hit the button and it would go back up and I would have to go all the way in the house and around to be able to get it closed because it wouldn’t work with the button. And so, the first guy said the sensors were misaligned. It worked for a couple of days, and then again, it was doing the exact same thing.
Then the second guy came, and it worked fine while he was there. He messed with the sensors a little bit. The thing is it had worked right before he got to the house, but he did mess with it a little bit to see if he could just make sure it was working. But now, it’s working fine and there are no problem from the car or from the house. American Home Shield was great and so were the garage people.

For the most part, American Home Shield has been pretty good. But for the last two weeks, I've been trying to resolve an issue and it seems like every time I call, either it's not getting resolved or when I call back and I speak to someone, somehow, we get disconnected. Then you would think they would call me back, and they don't. I call back, gotta start all over again, and somehow, it never always goes all the way to the end. I don't know why they don't call back when they have my number 'cause if I call back, I'm not getting the same person. That's been irritating to me.
But as far as normally handling claims, I have no complaints with that part. It’s just this last time, I spoke to someone and I specifically told her where I needed the contractor to come out on. It was to look at my hot water heater as one of the pipes that run into it was starting to rust. She had the person come out and when they came out, they told me that's not even something they address so they didn't do anything. They said it has to be a leak but I specifically told the rep that it was not leaking.
I called back and she said I had to call back Monday because it was like 4 something, and she couldn't get in touch with the people to verify they didn’t do anything. I don't know why she couldn't follow up within a day and call me back. I called back Monday and I got somebody. We were talking about it and we somehow got disconnected 'cause she put me on hold. They don't call back and I didn't have time to call back and start the whole conversation again. So I called back another day, and the same thing happened, it gets further along. The claim is still open and I still haven't gotten it resolved yet.

I've had Kent Electric come out and this gentleman and I have gotten such a good rapport. I had to have him come in there three times because my tenant made complaints on things that this gentleman had gone in for and done already. I know it was not anything he was doing. It was definitely something that the tenant herself had to be doing. I'm trying to actually evict her. But Kent Electric is excellent. Mike always knows what's going on. He knows what I'm dealing with. I ask contractors not to make the tenant aware of whatever's going on. I'm the landlord and I ask them to speak to me, and Mike knows that before he starts any work. He would call me, let me know and ask if I'm okay with such and such.
The company that American Home Shield always sends out always does an excellent job. But I usually have to talk to somebody to file claims and what bothers me the most is that a lot of times, the calls are not here in the US and you get people who do not speak clear English. I'm dealing with my money, like with credit cards, but I can't understand them and they can't understand me. I have to keep repeating myself. I don't like to do that. I usually hang up and call back. I even asked one woman and she said she couldn't tell me where they are. But it's either the Philippines or an Asian country.
I did not like the fact that this last time, they ended up taking money out that they should not have taken out. They were going to charge me for work that wasn't even done. If there's a service call and no one goes out, if it was canceled or the date had to be changed, are they normally supposed to still charge a customer? I noticed yesterday, when I went to pay my monthly bill with them, that they turned around and they still have the electrical part pending. Why would they charge me $125 for something that wasn't done just because a call was made? They can't do that. I got it straightened out though. They claimed they were reimbursing the money back to me because it was something that I wasn't aware of but I've dealt with them before.
Good Morning, I apologize that you have an unresolved problem. I am sending an email to you in hopes of assisting you with your issue. Thank You

Since then, the air conditioner seems to be running fine. One thing that I don't understand is that if the air conditioner goes down on a Saturday, the people they contract with do not work until Monday. I would think that if the contractors wanna be in their program, there are gonna be some things, that on May, June, July and August, they need to be available on night and weekends. It’s the same thing with the furnace company that's gonna be doing it in the winter. When you pay for the deductible, they would get my money, but then I gotta wait. The good thing that I was really pleased about was he told me that if I go buy a small electric fan and put it in the compartment, it would temporarily solve my problem and it did. It took about a week and a half for the part to come in. During that time, the refrigerator and the freezer continued to work. It made ice and did everything that it was supposed to as a little tiny fan was sitting up in the top. I was very pleased with the results.

I was told that one of the coils in the AC had worn out, and to replace the coil, it would be $1500. To get a new system would be more than double that, so it was better just to get a new coil. I called American Home Shield and they instructed me on what to do online. It was fairly easy, and Airmax was here within five working days. They showed me the old parts that they took out and showed me the new part that they put in. They told me it would be done in three or four hours, and it was done before that time.
However, I thought that I was supposed to be getting a refund. Somebody called me and left me a very detailed message saying that I would get $2,200 back. But I called and somebody informed me that that was a terrible mistake and that that message was actually meant for Airmax. Another thing was that when the guys from Airmax were here, they were telling me that I could have gotten an additional service where we could've gotten my air filters cleaned. I was disappointed that nobody told me that. That was a lot of money that I spent. If it was just gonna be a few more dollars to get these vents clean, then I definitely would have done that. I really wish that American Home Shield had told me that was an option.

I was a loyal customer and had no issues with American Homeshield until it was time to cancel my account. I have tried to cancel my account since March of 2019 and was always told they will submit my request. Every month thereafter I kept receiving a bill, up until August of 2019. Mind you every month when I called I was told the same thing. It is now August 2019 and I just received a “nasty letter” claiming that my account is overdue $273.12 and it has been referred to collections. Now, I’m extremely upset & very unsatisfied with this company. I have even thought of eventually returning back to this company.
This company will never ever earn me back as a loyal customer. Your company assures customers one thing, however your company is full of lies and bad customer service. I urge everyone to be careful when choosing this company. God forbid you want or have to cancel your subscription with this company, I wish you all the best of luck. Also, get use to it when they tell you someone will call you back because they won’t. BEWARE.

My refrigerator broke down on 7/25/19. AHS sent a repairman out on 7/26 but he was not able to repair the compressor. Second repairman came out on 7/30 and said the same thing that the compressor was broken. It took the second repairman 4 days to submit the diagnosis. Now on 8/5/19 AHS finally approves the repairs.
When I called to inquire about my service request update the phone representative John was not helpful to the questions I was asking. I requested to be transfer to a supervisor and John kept saying he is well trained and the supervisor is not available. I kept requesting and stating I will hold for a supervisor and John refused to transfer me to a supervisor. He kept on saying "let me put you on a brief hold while I check on the supervisor". After going back and forth requesting a supervisor, John starting to tell me I wanted to cancel my service and he is going to process my request. I never said anything about cancelling any service. John started to make things up and I kept asking for a supervisor. After about 45 minutes with John, he transfers me to a supervisor.

So my AC went down in the month of August, the hottest month of the year, mind you. I live in Southeast Texas so it's really hot + high humidity. I was told by American Home Shield that they would overnight the compressor that was needed to fix my air conditioner as I waited through the long hot weekend, I called Monday morning and was told that it was shipped using standard shipping and that there's nothing they could do. So now I will be almost two weeks without air conditioning with a six-month-old infant in a tropical climate. They buy all their parts in bulk at next to nothing prices, they cut corners every way they can and do not care about their customers, not to mention they obviously use a call center in another country because you can't barely understand them and there is no supervisor you can be transferred to. I am very unhappy with their service and will not be recommending this company to anyone.

So again, there is no solution and I wasted my time calling you guys because now they are saying I have to have my problem transferred to the Appliance department because the plumber said it’s not a plumbing or water issue. It’s something wrong with the dishwasher. 5 technicians already! Time wasted off work! Because you guys can’t just replace my dishwasher and keep sending technicians! The spot that you see that is cleaned is to show that the residue always reappears even after cleaning the inside of the tub. Again I have pictures to prove that there has been no solution and they are just transferring things back and forth wasting my valuable time from work and getting paid.

American Home Shield should be investigated by the U.S. Attorney's office for consumer fraud. The unscrupulous nature in which this company operates is an affront to any business model I have seen in my lifetime. False advertisement and customer fraud is their business mantra. Not only do AHS take your money on a monthly basis, they also charge a $100+ service fee for a technician to visit your property to assess the problem. Now here is where the scam comes to play! Any diagnosis the service technician renders that will put more money in his or her pocket and assists in denying, and or paying out claim is where AHS will follow. The customer service is blatantly hideous! Also, the so-called authorization department and the members of the staff should be brought up on racketeering violations.
Having interactions with AHS is the "MOST" disappointing, dreadful, experience I have had since we purchased our home. I would urge consumers to make it their priority to run this business out of the market by not doing business with unscrupulous business. There is nothing American about this business. In fact, AHS should change their name from AHS to Moscow Home Shield. Their business ethics and practices are reflective of one in which a despot style of communistic form of business model would thrive! In closing, the only reason AHS received a one star from my experience with this company is because there was nothing lower than a one (1).

My A/C unit went down on July 22nd. As of today August 5th they still have not made the necessary repairs and there still is no end date in sight. There is a lack of communication between American Home Shield and the contractor who has to make the repair. Considering the outside temperature is in the upper 90s this is not acceptable. If this was a furnace breakdown in the middle of winter you would be dealing with broken water pipes and unlivable conditions. Save yourself some headaches and find a different company for your home warranty.

If your AC goes out, be prepared for a long wait to get it repair. The contractor they use in my area are not the best, they came out three times and did not diagnose the issue correctly. AHS has to order compressors and it takes 7-10 business days, so they say, I am still waiting. It's not worth the hassle to go through all the red tape. Save your money for repairs. Complain all you want, but no one will entertain your complaints.

We submitted a claim to AHS for a hot water dispenser and City Plumbing came out six times to repair it. And then P&R came out and they said that the unit itself that had been replaced a couple of times by City was defective, that the thermostat was probably bad on it. And then, City sent another person out to replace, again, this is like the third unit. And so, hopefully, they're getting some kind of return because this all happened in two months. It's just been horrific. My wife was at home for 40 hours waiting for plumbers to fix one problem. This was like 11 visits, most of which by City. And so, my previous phone call with American Home Shield is I wish to have City never come to my home again. And when this problem is finished, I hope that that is honored.
As far as their cleanliness goes of both P&R and City, they clean up after themselves just fine. On Friday, this was City, they called about 15 minutes out and they said, "We would be about 15 minutes out," and they were then an hour out. So I don't know what happened to them. And then, they give you a four-hour window, but they generally show up in the last hour. And so, it's disrespectful of the homeowner.
However, when they are in the home, they are very respectful of my wife. The guy on Friday got very angry with the process of repairing it, and he went outside of the house to calm down. So, when he came back in and continued to work on it, he was respectful. I know with construction, things sometimes are difficult. He was having problems with some wrenches, getting them into the spaces. And so, he was very frustrated. And I did appreciate the fact that he stepped away and he composed himself as opposed to be belligerent.
I usually call AHS over the phone to submit a claim. They don't seem to have a lot of authority, and it seems that they have to put you on hold a lot to get approval for anything, and generally, a phone call takes almost 40 minutes. It takes a while to get an approval for something. And so, it would be nice if the representatives had a little bit more authority to shorten that experience down. But in the end, I don't have any difficulties with American Home Shield.
I hate to hear that we have inconvenienced you Jerry. I just sent you an email as I would love to speak with you about your hot water dispenser. My name is Stacy and I look forward to assist you.

When called again and expedited again another 2 days went by. You call and get India or Philippines. You ask for an American Operator and none to be found as well as supervisors. When you try to cancel 2 hours on hold.
I called credit card company on cell and made sure no more payments to them. As soon as I told them I did that I was miraculously given cancellation numbers. I had 2 contracts and cancelled both. I signed a contract with American Home Shield about 3 years ago. In the summer of 2017 I called them because my AC unit needed service. It takes a long time to cool my house. American Home Shield send a AC company to work in my unit. They came and did a visual inspection and left in no more than 10 minutes. The next day they sent a recommendation that my AC unit needed to be replace. American Home Shield charge $100.00 for the service call; I call AHS the same day and complain that they did not troubleshoot the problem with my AC and that I refuse the charges. They sent a different company next morning, and without even looking at my AC unit they sent a report to AHS that my AC unit needed to be replace. AHS did not return the $100.00 because both companies did the same report.
I called AHS 3 different occasions and they put in hold for over 3 hours each time, I was able to talk to a AHS rep on the 4th attempt after more than 1 hour waiting and after explaining my situation over and over they said that they were going to look into my case and that a manager will contact me. The manager never called me. This year in March 2019 I called AHS and talked to a representative about my case. They informed that after reviewing my situation I need to replace my unit, but if I wanted that they service another one of their service companies I have to pay another $100.00. I cancelled their service; they just wanted to replace my unit without servicing or attempting to troubleshoot and diagnostic the problem in my AC unit.
I find an AC service company, the first thing they did is to troubleshoot my AC unit to find the problem. They open a small hole in the furnish and they find that the coils were very dirty with a membrane of dust witch did not allow the air to go through. That was why the AC wasn’t working, besides at this point there was no refrigerant in the system because the 2 valves were worn out. They fix my unit only cleaning the coils, and adding refrigerant, the charges were for the cleaning material $35.00, 2 valves at $1.25 each + the cost of refrigerant about $150.00 + 3 hour labor. So I’ll never recommend this company to any person. The companies they use were only trying to sell me a new unit, and they never attempt to fix the problem.
Gerardo,
I am sorry that we were not able to offer a resolution that you were pleased with while the contract was active. We hope this experience does not deter you from considering AHS in the future for your home warranty needs.

We've been having some issues with the icemaker. We submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and most of time, they have been very proficient in getting somebody here, but it took Sears forever to come out. When we had some issues with the dishwasher, American Home Shield used Platinum Services for that and they were here within three or four days. But Sears has taken three weeks on this icemaker. They must cover a larger territory or they're limited on their service people, so they told me they were scheduled out in two weeks. But all of the people that came the house were professional. When Sears came in, we thought they repaired the icemaker, but it ended up not being repaired. We had a water leak, so that was not good. They ordered some parts, and the parts got here. And now, we’re on a recall and hopefully, it’s gonna get repaired on the third team.

My experience with American Home Shield started out bumpy. Our air conditioner went out and when I called, we were assigned to a local entity. They said that we would get a call within 24 hours but 24 hours came and went. I even called them three times and those never went to anything. I tried to leave a voicemail but the voicemail was full. I left at least two voicemail messages and sent a text message. But I never heard from the initial person that we were assigned to. So then I called back to American Home Shield and they assigned us to a new company. That company called us within two hours and were out the next day. The technician was here for 30 minutes at the most and in that time, he talked to us, did an evaluation and then waited to see if the system was working again. He resolved the issue and gave us good advice. He was very good.
So the second part of the process was good. But the first vendor was horrible. I also looked online and the rating for that vendor said the same thing. People tried to call them and when they finally talked to the guy, he was arrogant. There were all kinds of nasty evaluations for the contractor and American Home Shield because the vendor was so lousy in their performance. American Home Shield really needs to look at those vendors and get those bad vendors out of the mix. If I have to deal with vendors like that, there’s no purpose for us to have a warranty. Our friend had a similar issue for her house and they had the same warranty as we do.

The contractor called me about 30 minutes before showing up, and I just let them know that my roommate was gonna be there and that it was all good to go, and they did the work and left. I called them and the contractor said he unclogged some kind of piping. He placed like Clorox on it and the issue was fixed.
And then it started pouring again. So I contacted them again and very, very nice and very respectfully, they came back out without charging me anything, so that was really nice. I'm pretty happy about that. But on the email that I got today, it says that there was nothing wrong, and then the contractor basically didn't check, didn't do anything or something. When I bought my policy with American Home Shield, I was very careful. I had been in the insurance industry for 25 years and I know about contracts, exclusions, and conditions. I have three air conditioners on my premise. Two are in the main house. 90% of the homes on the west coast have casitas which is right on the property. There is no separation. All my utilities are paid through that unit. I asked the individual from AHS if that was going to be covered and she specifically yes. That was why I took the policy with them.
Now a year later, that unit in that casita went. The air handler is the intuitive part of the air conditioning and it is an important part of it. I turned a claim in and somebody was sent out. But that technician was a real bozo. The first trip out, he didn’t come with the proper tools so that was a wasted day. Specifically, he was supposed to come out with nitrogen gas and put it into the system to find the leak. But he didn’t bring the nitrogen gas. He said it was in another truck with another technician.
I’m also a maintenance person and I’m AC certified. He was a contractor and he only had one bottle in one truck. Right away, the red flags went up. He wasted a trip. The next time he came out, we found the leak but he didn't bring his acetylene torch to do the brazing or to fix that leak. Finally, somebody came with an acetylene torch and he brazed it. The first guy lost again. That was two days now.
The next trip, they found out that they had to call it in because it was over x-number of dollars. Again, to me, with companies, if it’s gonna exceed a certain amount, you have to call it in and get the authority. AHS came back and said it was denied. In the four more days after the technician left, he didn't have the decency to tell me it was denied. I had to hear it from the home warranty company. I asked what it was about. I was talking to the service office again and they were reading off a script. All they knew was it was not covered.
I asked under what condition or what exclusion. The rep pointed to one. I told her that didn't apply to me. It was innocuous. It didn't even say what they were claiming. They said it was a mother-in-law suite. But it was not. It was on my property and not off it. When they say attached, my roofline in the main house doesn’t touch that. It was ridiculous. What if it was my garage? It touched my house so they would have covered that.
I read the exclusion and said that that didn't pertain to me. If they were going to put a mother-in-law suite aka a casita, they should put it in writing so the person who is reading this knows it’s excluded. They shouldn't call it something innocuous like mother-in-law suite. I got upset about that. It's almost a week now. I had to pay a contractor to come in and do the job in one day.
One of my biggest complaints too was the contractor. The technician who came had three failures. He would take it back to the home warranty people. American Home Shield relies on their contractors to fix and they are their eyes and ears. I think that the technician I had was an idiot. He described the issue and what he described was 180 degrees out from that of the real contractor who came in and did the job. The technician who came was talking about cutting something out of my drywalls and removing the unit. I’m AC certified and as I was listening to him, I realized he didn't want the job. He was making it sound worse than it was. He turned it back to the company and I believe he did that so that AHS would deny the claim.
I’m looking at my contract and there’s a number there that I was just about to call. I’m that hopeful I would be able to speak with somebody of some knowledge. As I was an insurance underwriter, I want to talk it out with the underwriting department aka claims department. I want us to go through this exclusion together and make sure that the terms being used are applicable or not. If it’s not applicable, then the exclusion doesn’t exist in my case.
I chose American Home Shield. They were at the top of their game and they were either one or two in the industry. They were quick on their response when I made the claim and they were quick to send somebody out. I’m hoping that they are gonna see the logic. $4,000 is nothing to them. That’s what I had to pay. It wasn’t astronomical but it was mainly that I’m paying to get serviced and to get things fixed and repaired. I own several properties and I have three contracts with American Home Shield. I’m getting up in age and I can’t be running around to my properties taking care of these problems. These vendors take care of it for me.

He said to give it about 12 to 15 hours and it would cool nicely but it is now the 6th of August. I’ve given it plenty of time and the temperature is still 55 to 60. So, the refrigerator side is still not safe to use and we are keeping milk and perishables in our other refrigerator. The problem has not gone away. So, when I called AHS back, they said they would get right back with me. Within 5 minutes, they gave me a call back and said that it would be scheduled for the next day. I finally got it serviced and the contractor was great. He told me a lot of stuff about it I didn't even know about. Since then, everything seems fine. We were able to use all the toilets.

I submitted a claim online to AHS and the process was pretty good. I like using AHS. They are very responsive, so it’s been fine. They got a decent website too. So far, the contractors have been good as well. The refrigerator contractor was a doozy though. They were about to buy me a new refrigerator, but the last change he made the third time he came out fixed it.
The guy for the pipes was good. He identified the problem. He may have even addressed it, but he was saying the pipes could be replaced. I said, “Just look into it.” Because if he does it, there’s a bunch of other units I know we would be willing to pay for as maintenance. So, I wanted to use that company. The guy was good and I appreciate the services.

I had an issue with the AC unit because the handler unit in the garage was going bad, and that was a 24-year-old unit. But American Home Shield said as long as it can be repaired, per the contract, that’s the only thing they were reliable to pay for. I ended up getting a new unit because the guy said, “Next year, you’re gonna be doing the same thing again and you’re gonna be out of $1000 ‘cause you have to put more Freon back in it.” He also said, “It’s a 24-year-old unit, so I wouldn’t keep putting money into something that’s gonna keep repairing. And you need to put that money toward a brand-new unit.”
So, when I went in and said I wanted to get a brand-new unit, American Home Shield only gave me the difference of what it would’ve cost to repair the unit versus getting a new unit. That’s the only thing. After a certain amount of years, I give American Home Shield a monthly payment, even when there ain’t nothing wrong with my house. But for a 24-year-old unit, they should've seen that I shouldn’t have to keep repairing something that’s gonna keep tearing up. They should've went at least half with me on the new unit versus whatever it was the cost of repair. Moreover, I don't like when they keep going up on the price every year and they take away on what their contract will be doing. They let you know when the cost goes up, and they let you know what they will repair and what goes up under the not repairable side. But American Home Shield is still good to have.

I had claims made for the washer, the stove, and one of my refrigerators. With the stove, the convection part of the oven wasn’t working. For the washer, it wasn’t getting enough water. Then the freezer went out on my refrigerator. Filing it was seamless. I did it over the phone and the representatives that helped me were professional and very knowledgeable with what they were doing. The contractor came out and there were two parts that they needed for both the washer and the stove. As soon as the part came in, they were right back out. It was my first time using American Home Shield and I was very impressed with them as well as the person that came out to fix the appliances.

I used my disposal, put a half lemon down and it locked. I thought it was the lemon that had locked it, but I wasn’t sure because there was no sound at all. It sounded like the motor just gave out. I called American Home Shield for a garbage disposal issue and they farmed my claim out. PROline Plumbing called me and set the appointment up. They came the following day.
I thought replacing the disposal was what was gonna have to be done but then the technician from PROline, Chris, was pretty amazing. He told me who he was and from the moment he walked in, he and his partner went right to work. He identified the problem and unplugged it. He had a key with him and he unlocked the disposal. His partner looked in and pulled out a little baby spoon. They pulled it out and plugged the disposal back in. Now, it works great. I'm very happy with AHS.

The air conditioning was not cooling at all and there wasn't any air coming out at all. We had to cut it off because we were afraid it might burn the motor up. We called the American Home Shield number that we normally call if we have an issue. The interactions with the claims reps were wonderful. They gave us a date that would push it quite a bit out five days, and my husband called back and got a representative because I am immune compromised, so I really need the air. It's a medical issue for me, so she worked very hard to get someone out the very next day. The contractor was the same company that came out before and they did an excellent job.
AHS and the heating and air company did all they could to help us as quickly as possible. This happened on a Friday so, we dealt with the weekend, which was not good, but it is what it is and they were able to get someone out on Tuesday instead of the end of the week. So, that was most helpful. Overall, we haven't had a bad experience at all except one with AHS and that was a couple of years ago with our washer and dryer. It had to do with a low inventory on the parts so it took forever to get them but that wasn’t their fault. AHS is a great company.

It was excellent dealing with Foxcroft HVAC. They had to come back out because the AC did the same thing again. It was a leak and I lost a couple of pounds of Freon again. But the same tech guy came out and he said that they had gone through a case of the sealant that they had put in and it was bad. They were getting all these callbacks. But they got a new one and he said they would fill it again and put the Freon in with no charge to me. He also said to let him know if it’s acting up again. He fixed the issue in about 10 minutes and it’s been working good ever since.
American Home Shield has resolved all the issues and the communication is what they say. They get back to me within the time frame and I’m real happy. I tell everybody I have American Home Shield. And I will renew too. When I bought the house, I had the opportunity to get a really good special if I took two years so I did. When you buy a house as is, you need to do stuff like that just in case. I also take advantage of the maintenance. I do the preseason checkups. I have them come out twice a year – once for the air conditioning when it gets hot and then I do the maintenance check in the fall for the furnace. It’s really good because when I lived in Florida, I had a heat pump and I did the same thing with that. You gotta be prepared and maintain your stuff so that it lasts.

They had someone out within two hours and the contractor was there promptly. They called ahead of time to confirm. We live in a gated community and they introduced themselves as they arrived. I had moved everything away so they could get into it. They checked inside and outside and saw the problem. They diagnosed it immediately. The return line from the evaporator that goes out to the outside of the house with the moisture was plugged so they cleared it, and that was it. They were gone within maybe half an hour. We would either call or submit a claim online to American Home Shield and most of the time, there was no need to call to make an additional inquiry about the same problem. AHS would send something in the mail that a contractor would contact us. We had a problem with our AC that started back in June when we first called American Home Shield to put in the claim. Precision came in to look at it and they did something to fix it. Then, we noticed again in July that we had the same issue, the same unit was giving air but not working.
The contractor who came out the same day as Precision made a big diagnostic that I had to change the whole unit. American Home Shield called me to follow up after the first company called them to report on what their finding was. I asked the lady what the problem was that the other company found and reported to them. She told me that she would have to call but it says that the unit had to be changed. Also, we have to pay for the Freon and it would’ve cost us $975. Then, somebody from Precision came. We were surprised but he came in, went downstairs and whatever the problem was, he fixed it and the AC was working. It took the guy 15 minutes. He knew exactly what to look for.
As soon as you call, AHS doesn’t go and investigate. In their policy, about 90 days after the service was rendered, if the issue comes up, they have to fix it. They’re quick to take money out of your account before even realizing what was going on. Still, AHS is decent. They just need to work more on their customer service. Other than that, it’s a good insurance to have.

MRE Incorporated came out and patched up a hole that was cut in the ceiling by another contractor. The timing and everything was great as far as the MRE contractor coming out and fixing it. Now, I've been with American Home Shield for a while, and the customer service sucks. I've had contractors come out six different times to assess, and every time I've called, a supervisor was supposed to call me back because of something that the company didn’t do or that the company didn’t properly contact me or they didn’t show up. And every time I've asked to talk to a supervisor, they’d say, “A supervisor is not available at the time. I got your information, and I'll have somebody to call you back.” It never happened. Some of the contractors that come out here has been great, but the service that was provided as far as the customer service center and ensuring that things are taken care of in a positive manner is horrible.
When my contract is up, I'm considering not even renewing with American Home Shield because of that experience. And it's not the first. I've had quite a few calls and it's every time. But the contractors have called me and they’ve done a great job. It's just a frustrating process. I'm always on a call waiting for like 30 minutes to talk to somebody. The quality contractors is the thing that keeps in my contract versus getting out of it because they're doing their job.

The contractor of AHS made an appointment for our dishwasher. I showed them what was going on and they evaluated it. They couldn’t fix it so they’re replacing it. And it's kinda hard to deal with them. I have a washing machine and dryer coming too. So there’s three items, and she said she wanted to bring the washer and dryer, and I said, “Well, where’s the dishwasher? Deliver them all at the same time.” And she said the washer and dryer are aging, and because they’re aging, they wanted to bring in those out right away and then come again with the other one.
I asked, “Since when does a washer and dryer age?” She’s a young girl, so I asked to speak to her supervisor. So the supervisor said that she would have the washer and dryer extended. And so, yesterday they called and they have the dishwasher now, but she doesn’t know anything about the washer and dryer. And so, I’m waiting for a call today because they were going to try to get them all together and deliver them at the same time, because it’s the same company.
With the washer and dryer the delivery guys can install them because all they have to do is plug it in. But I have to get somebody else to come and do the dishwasher. Also I’m out of town here, where we have repairmen, and I don't why somebody like that can’t be called to come up and install and tell me whether I need a new one or not. They have to bring somebody from out of town, far away. I don’t know why they can’t use local people. But I don’t have to pay for the installer because it’s under American Home Shield.

Generally, American Home Shield has always been great. But this recent claim with the air conditioner was horrible and it's the guy that they keep using, Denny from Temperature Tech. He was very bad. He just walked in and said it was probably nothing because it was just so hot out and that it was happening to people all over the place. I had my AC at 75 and my house was at 85 degrees at the time. I said it was not normal. He said this happens with older AC units and that he'd take a look at it. He came back 15 minutes later and said there was nothing wrong with the air conditioner. He wrote it off as nothing was wrong with it.
American Home Shield sent him the second time and I confronted him. I said, “Look, I don't know what the issue is. The first time, you didn't even go up there to check if there was an issue.” He said, “Okay, let me go up there and check.” He went up there and said he found the problem. It was the ductwork that had fallen. I asked what would we do and he said he just taped it up and put a few screws in. That was it. He left and it was a little cooler but I was still having the same issue. He had to come out three times.
I had to call American Home Shield about four times. I called and asked if they could send another person instead of the person that they had sent me. Never did they tell me that this person was the owner of the company so they sent him again the second time even though I had requested somebody different. When I called them back, they were argumentative. They said, “Well, we can’t do anything today. It’s too late. It’s already gonna be 5:00, so you’re gonna have to wait. And if you want a second opinion, we can set that up, but you’re gonna have to pay another fee.” I said okay and they said they were gonna set it up and they would call me back. This was on a Saturday.
Monday came in and nothing so I had to reach out to them. They told me that they didn't have any paperwork for my second opinion. By this time, I was asking to speak to a supervisor and he was not available at that moment. They finally set it up with a second opinion and I had to pay again. Orangutan Home Services came and they were amazing. The technician looked around. He went up in the attic and checked everything. He took about 30 minutes then he sat down and explained everything to me and said it might be a couple different issues. He stated it was the thermostat. He changed it with a completely new one, and I haven’t had an issue since.

Filing a service request over the phone has been reasonably simple. But sometimes you don’t get an answer right away or you have to give a call back. I had an AC claim and Express Comfort came out in about a week. I wasn’t here but they called me while they were here to make sure they understood what the problem was. Then they went to check to make sure they had the right equipment for this type of unit. They seemed very thorough. The issue was that cold air wasn’t coming out and we were seeing ice on the line that goes back into the condenser. But everything seems to be working very well now. They did a good job.
On the other hand, it's not always clear what American Home Shield covers. For example, with the air conditioner, it required some additional coolant. The technician added Freon and that’s not covered so it was an out-of-pocket expense that we didn’t expect. American Home Shield should make sure that the customers know very clearly what's covered and what's not covered at the time that they're signing them.

The initial guy said all the upgrades were made and then, the plumber who came out and actually replaced the unit said that there were upgrades needed. So, I said okay. I didn't believe him but I told him to leave the things that he would upgrade. He upgraded two brass pipes and it looked brand new. I said that I wasn’t sure that was the case. He told me that most businesses won't change out a hot water tank unless they can use their own pipes. I said that was fine but he said it needed an upgrade but then, he was telling me that it’s that he wanted to use those pipes.
I went to Lowe’s and the pipes cost $38. I was charged $394 and it was called an upgrade. I still have the pipes that the plumber said needed upgrading and there's nothing wrong with them. They can be used for another 30 years because they're brass and in great shape. I've contacted American Home Shield and they put me in touch with the same people. Plus, they say you're talking to a supervisor, but you don't know who you're talking to. I asked them to mail me the documents, so that I could fill out paperwork and appeal this decision that there was no upgrade required. Other than that, we're good but that was an eye-opener.

We've had American Home Shield for a year now and this was the fourth time that we had to use them. All the other events before this claim have been less than superior. It would take too long to get connected with a contractor and it would take too long for the contractor to get here. In some cases, the effectiveness of the repair/replacement was not immediate.
And when the one year came up, American Home Shield increased my monthly premium by 25% without explanation. I called in to find out what the explanation was and I got a generic response stating that part of it was increased prices and part of it was instituted by either me or American Home Shield. But nobody could ever tell me what that meant. I have not been happy with American Home Shield overall. I left my previous provider a year ago because they were charging more and having poor response times. I got a better deal with American Home Shield but then I had poor response times. The work got done as promised on all counts though.
I think that the business of warranty is flawed somehow because even the two home warranties I had (TotalProtect) and have (American Home Shield) that are supposed to be so good are not. I'm so frustrated. Initially, you could pay the $100 when the contractor showed up. But they sort of take the $100 right away this time. Since I was gonna pay the $100 anyway, that was okay. But I didn't get a notification about it. They just did that all of a sudden.
And when we had to get a new dryer washer, the free replacement had terrible reviews. We wound up having to pay several hundred dollars, to get the washer that we needed for what was being replaced. American Home Shield definitely lowballs you on the replacements. Thankfully, for the garbage disposal claim that took place last week, they put in the same one that was already in there. It had been okay.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield online for my air conditioning unit that wasn't working and I was quite surprised at how easy and efficient the process was. I was given a four-hour window and the contractor was right on time with it. They were very professional, nice, and polite. It’s great customer service. All in all, I’m extremely satisfied.

The air conditioner would not work at all and it was a breeze submitting the claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor called the next day, and they were out and fixed the AC the following day. Since the repair, the performance of the AC has been perfect.

I'm satisfied with American Home Shield. I made a claim over the phone for the AC that wasn't working at all. I was really upset that for the first person, they contacted me and I scheduled them for Saturday. I stayed there all day Saturday and they never showed up. In that 105-degree weather and sitting there with no air, that was not a great experience for me. Nonetheless, the tech from Joe’s Heating was very knowledgeable and knew exactly how to complete and fix the item. He even educated me on my thermostat, so he was excellent.

I had issues with the washer/dryer and I filed an online claim with AHS. Their online claims process worked great. I also called them for follow-up conversations and such because the techs couldn’t repair it, so they had to replace it. The contractor who came out did their job and I have no complaints. But it took about two weeks to arrive at a resolution and it would be nice if they could shorten that period of time to come to the decision. But I also understand that because I had an older washer/dryer, they needed to do research and check a number of sources to see if they could find the parts anywhere. At the end of the day, I was without a washer/dryer for two weeks, so that seemed like a long time. Also, I wanted to get the cash equivalent because I wanted to get something else different and I haven't gotten that check reimbursement even though I've submitted all my paperwork. But, things worked fine overall.

I have been trying to get someone to come back to fix a problem with an appliance that wasn’t resolved and no one will help me!! There is no contact info for me to email. I can only talk to people in another country with a very bad connection who I cannot understand! Very frustrating! I have been trying for two weeks so now I will have to pay another 75.00 just to get someone to come back.
I can understand your frustration Tammy. My name is Stacy and I just sent you an email in regards to your post. I look forward to assisting with a resolution.

These people are complete garbage. I have never written a bad review for a company in my life (all of my yelp reviews are 4 or higher) but I will go out of my way to tell every person I possibly can how abysmal this company is. I would love to sue them for how terrible they have treated us. Our AC went out in the beginning of June. They sent a repair guy. He sucked. He would spend about 15 minutes in the basement not talking to us and then leave with little explanation. Multiple times we had to stop him as he tried to flee our house without telling us anything. He came 3 times over 3 weeks and concluded we needed a new A/C because our 25-year-old one was broken.
American Home Shield, this absolutely awful company, decides they don't want to pay for a new A/C so instead of listening to their own repair guy they assign us a new company and a new contractor. The new guys comes and is a lot more friendly but he insists on trying all of the same stuff the first guy did We told him that what he was doing was already tried but he promised that he could fix it. After a week with him, I'm fed up. We haven't had A/C in a month and it's 90+ every single day. I call American home shield and get just ridiculously bad service on the phone with them claiming to not have the paperwork we know that has been sent in and all this other nonsense. Surprise surprise they still don't want to honor their warranty.
We continue working with this second contractor company. 3/4 receptionists I talked to were incredibly rude. They didn't care that we hadn't had A/C in over a month and were doing very little to get our unit looked at. Meanwhile, the contractors aren't showing up when scheduled, aren't calling to let us know they aren't coming, and then when we'd call them about it they'd lie and say we had a different appointment time despite us calling a half-hour prior to confirm. They also keep replacing parts on this old A/C. I'm pretty sure at this point we've almost replaced everything and it still doesn't work.
All in all, we haven't had A/C for 7 weeks. We have had 8 visits from contractors. 4 from the first company and 4 from the second. This Friday after having this second company mess around again, American Home Shield FINALLY approved us for the new A/C we've needed for close to 2 months. Mind you, we still have to have it installed. My apartment is 95 degrees as we speak. They are big companies at their worst, forcing people to suffer for their own profit. Seriously ** AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. If you want a warranty that will be honored avoid them at all costs.
I apologize for the very long delay. In an effort to reach a resolution, I just sent you an email. I look forward to speaking with you. Oh, my name is Stacy.

I submitted a claim for a washer repair over the phone. The representative gave me the information I needed and told me that the contractor would contact me. Lucas Appliances said that someone would call me within 24 to 48 hours and then he scheduled the appointment to come out. When the guy came out, he explained thoroughly what the situation was. He showed me the issue. He verified that the appliance could in fact be repaired and wouldn't have to be replaced. He told me the timeframe for the turnaround on the replacement part.
While the washer was out, I had to go through a Laundromat and I went into sticker shock there. I started up there with my little $10 worth quarters and thought I was gonna be fine but that did not work. There was one washer that was $9.50 by itself which was supposed to hold 85 pounds of stuff. The cheapest one was $3 and that was just the little top loader, like what I have. So, I was really happy that he called me and told me the part was in. He also told me what time he could be here, and he was here. He was very good and courteous. American Home Shield is a great deal as far as getting the service. Even though that’s only one appliance, I’m assuming that everything else will be fine too.

My AC wasn’t working. It was blowing warm air. I looked at the outside unit and the fan wasn’t operating. The claim submission with American Home Shield over the phone was a voice-automated process and through the process, my daughter walked in and it messed it all up. So I had to go through an operator and then it was fairly simple from that point on. Then Greenway Home was out in about five days and they got everything fixed in one visit. The guy was there for an hour or so. I was satisfied with AHS.

I called American Home Shield for my refrigerator that was freezing up. The contractor who came was very nice and professional. He took care of the problem the same day that he came and the refrigerator has been good. I haven't seen any problems. It was really good and nice to have someone to go ahead and take care of the problem.

American Home Shield's online claims process seems very convenient and easy. I used it when I had an HVAC issue. It took at least a couple of days for a contractor to come out for the service. Everything seems to be working fine.
